Psychometry: Can You Feel It?
You may remember when we discussed psychometry in Chapter 6. The term is derived from the Greek words psyche, meaning ''soul," and metron, meaning to "measure." The concept of "measuring soul" refers to the idea that every object possesses certain vibrations that reflect its inner essence, which can be read when one is open to it.
This type of intuition is often referred to as "seeing with the fingers." It enables you to pick up information about an object's history through holding or touching it.
The theory for how psychometry works says that every object possesses vibrations that reflect its entire history. When you are open to sensing these vibrations, you can pick up on the object's past. This ability applies to places as well, so that you can tune in to past events when you are receptive to the vibrations of the place.
Many psychics consider psychometry a form of clairsentience, which is perhaps the most common form through which most people receive psychic information (see Chapter 6). For this reason, teachers often recommend that beginners focus on developing psychometry as a first step. This ability can be mastered within several months, and lends itself to a natural progression toward learning more challenging skills.
Psychometry Exercise
Here's an exercise to get you started. Begin by choosing a few objects that you would like to receive psychic information about. Good choices are a handwritten letter, a piece of jewelry, a metal object such as a key, or some older object, such as an antique vase. We recommend you try this with something that has had some history to it, meaning that it has been held or used by someone. For example, you won't get much information from a form letter from your insurance company, but a letter from your grandmother will have an energy that you can pick up on. Note that a piece of clothing or fabric will work only if you know it hasn't been cleaned, so you might want to avoid trying that at first.

Try to choose objects that a friend or relative can give you factual information about after you've practiced the exercise. Their knowledge allows you to get some verification of your accuracy when you're finished.
Arrange the objects on a table in front of you. Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes. Take a few relaxing deep breaths. Choose an object and hold it in your hand. Concentrate fully on this object. Don't rush. Pay attention to images that come to your mind. You may receive fragments of information. They may come in words, feelings,
