3. Instead of seeing only in front of you, like normal, your point of view changes. You can also see in all directions at once; imagine yourself as being simply an eye or a sphere. |

4. Once you get used to moving, you can choose to see or visit whatever or whomever you wish. However, you'd be wise to remember your etiquette. Although you are meant to feel at home in this realm and are free to be just about anywhere you can imagine, remember that you are a newcomer. You may not understand all that is going on, or be prepared to go everywhere. A little humility is always wise in new territory: Treat any being you meet with respect. |

Meeting other beings is a characteristic that makes astral travel unique. Although it may happen in lucid dreams (see Chapter 15), reports of this are rare. Otherwise, lucid dreams share many traits with astral travel. Indeed, some expert astral travelers enter or exit their astral travel through a lucid dream state. Not surprisingly, many people who are experienced with creating lucid dreams are also adept at astral travel. |

The line between astral travel and lucid dreaming can become confused at times. In both, subjects are aware of being in an altered state and having an ability to control it. They are fully conscious and the world within their experience also maintains a certain consistency that adds to its feeling of reality. However, in both states, their world appears somewhat different from the real world and has many properties of an imaginary or dream world. |
