Jim Kowal, M.S.,
L.C.P.C., is a retired technical manager of Systems Engineering at Lucent
Technologies, Bell Laboratories, an adjunct professor of Computer Science at North Central
College, Naperville, IL, and author of two college text books. In 1990 he embarked on a
second career and is now in private practice as a licensed clinical professional counselor
(LCPC) in Naperville, IL. He has post-graduate training in hypnotherapy with Erika
Fromm, Ph.D. and Stephen Kahn, Ph.D. at the Institute of Clinical and Experimental
Hypnosis, University of Chicago, and is an approved consultant by the American Society of
Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH). He is trained in trauma and dissociative
disorders at Harvard University Medical School, and in sexual
dysfunction at Loyola Sexual Dysfunction Clinic, Maywood, IL, with Domeen Renshaw,
M.D. He is a certified sex |

therapist by the American Association of Sex Educators,
Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). Jim is trained as a facilitator and is an
approved consultant in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). He is a
Thought Field Therapy Diagnostic (TFTdx) therapist and approved trainer by Callahan
Techniques. He has completed the first Internal Family Systems (IFS) 2-year training
program by Richard Schwartz. Ph.D. at the Family Institute of Northwestern University.
He is also a Third and Fourth degree Tibetan Reiki Master. |

Jim specializes in the
treatment of trauma and dissociative disorders, and is the president of the Illinois West
Suburban Chapter of the International Society for the Study of Dissociation (1996-2002).
He is a director and co-founder of the Center for Traumatic Stress in
Naperville, IL, and is credentialed as Allied Professional Staff at Linden Oaks Hospital
at Edward, Naperville, IL. Jims current interest is in neurotherapy, and he is
completing his doctoral studies at Walden University. |

Jim is a charter member in
both the Internal Family Systems Association (IFSA) and the Eye Movement Desensitization
and Reprocessing International Association (EMDRIA). He is a member of the American
Society for Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH), the American Association of Sex Educators,
Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT), the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology
(ACEP), the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC), the International
Critical Incident Stress Foundation, the International Society for the Study of
Dissociation (ISSD), and most recently he has joined the International Society for
Neuronal Regulation (SNR). |

The Center for Traumatic
Stress is an association of independent practitioners located at the Hobson Medical Campus
in Naperville, IL. Dedicated to the treatment of psychological trauma, the
specialists at the center are certified in various methods used in the treatment of
trauma, such as, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), hypnosis, Thought
Field Therapy (TFT), Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT), Ego State Therapy, Internal Family
Systems (IFS) Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. In addition, associates at
the center are trained professional in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD), sexual
abuse, sexual dysfunction, dissociative disorders, neurotherapy, neurofeedback, and
performance enhancement.
In supporting the mental health community, members of the center offer
trainings, consultations, and supervision. Members are approved consultants and
facilitators in EMDR (EMDR International Association and EMDR Institute), approved
trainers in TFT (Callahan Techniques), approved consultants and instructors in hypnosis
(American Society for Clinical Hypnosis and the Institute for Clinical and Experimental
Hypnosis, University of Chicago), and offer education and training courses in various
aspects in the treatment of complex trauma through Linden Oaks Hospital at Edward,
Naperville, IL.
Most recently, members of the center are offering neurotherapy,
neurofeedback, and are doing quantitative electroencephalography (QEEG), as well as doing
research in the field of neuroscience. |
