4 of Pentacles: A Firm Foundation
9103-0233a.gif
4 of Pentacles.
Upright Imagery and Meanings: In the 4 of Pentacles, we find a man holding tightly to the gold he's worked so hard for, and in the background we can see the city where he lives and works. This card expresses both the solidity and sound foundation of the number four and the security pentacles can bring.
This man has a strong attachment to the money and possessions he's worked so hard for and earned over time. He has a love of earthly possessions and feels comfortable when he has all his earthly goods around him. In firm command of his money and possessions, he'll work very hard to gain even more in the future.
The 4 of Pentacles indicates good judgment in business matters as well as many talents that could bring you and your family prosperity. Sometimes this card comes up when you're a little too tight with your money or if you have a somewhat ungenerous character. But this comes from the reality that it took a long time to get your money, and you're not likely to give it out so quickly. It also indicates conservative spending.
Reversed Imagery and Meanings: Upside down, the man's no longer in control of the four pentacles he's trying to hold and balance, and one of these pentacles will fall away from him. The reversed 4 of Pentacles shows a person letting go of money or having to spend more than anticipated, as well as the chance of losing some money or earthly possessions.
This card can indicate an opposition toward financial security at this time. There may be a delay in attaining the paycheck you thought was coming, or extra money you were anticipating doesn't arrive in time to pay off something. In business matters, there will be opposition or extra cost you hadn't counted on. Or, if it's about you, you may be overextending yourself financially and need to be cautious not to go overboard.
