Scientists of all kinds, especially those poised on the cutting edge of physics, are wondering how psi reflects what they are finding in the areas of quantum mechanics, complexity theory, and chaos theory. Social and behavioral scientists are investigating how the implications of parapsychology (which we defined in Chapter 1) have affected the development of individual personalities as well as cultural identities and social progress. We'll talk more about that in the next chapter. For now, let's look at what's going in the ''hard" sciences to study this invisible one. |

The first American research facility devoted to the scientific study of psychic phenomena was the Rhine Research Center, formed in 1927. Situated next to Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, it remains greatly respected for its high standards, state-of-the-art research techniques, and remarkable results. Now referred to as the Institute for Parapsychology, it is a leader among several highly reputable psi research science labs. |
