Most people do not view themselves in this way, whether due to insecurity or humility. And yet this awareness of all being's interconnection with the divine, and the responsibility to share this fact, is what makes one divine. The more that one is aware of one's divine interconnectedness, the closer one comes to the divine.
One quality that we attribute to an all-powerful god is one that spiritual people tend to have: insight without a known source. To the extreme, this ability is called omniscience: all-knowing. Spiritual leaders often have several types of intuitive ability, which enable them to access information through a combination of clairsentience, clairvoyance, clairaudience, and empathy.
It's All About Compassion and Empathy
In his famous letter to the Corinthians, Paul said, ''Now I will show you the way which surpasses all the others. If I speak with human tongues and angelic as well, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong, a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and, with full knowledge, comprehend all mysteries, if I have faith enough to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing."
Popular clichés, often truer than one realizes, say that love makes the world go round. Deepak Chopra, mind-body doctor and spiritual author, compares love to the forces that create the laws of nature. The Dalai Lama, who is considered the incarnation of the Buddha of Love, says that love is the natural state of the universe, which is why negative news stands out: Bad news goes against the norm.
What would be the purpose of all that happens, of eons of existence, of ages of awareness, if its overriding essence were negative? The ongoing urge to connect with others, to understand and empathize with them, continues to run through all that exists. To become more at one with this force, you can cultivate compassion and empathy.
As you move into the 21st century, the universe has many ways to help you learn the lessons presented in the classroom called "Earth." Your task as a spiritual being is no small challenge, and yet it's profoundly simple. Learn how to love and forgive. Open yourself to experiencing peace and sharing it with others. Offer service. Express compassion. And enjoy yourself!
