I do this exercise frequently in my classes on ''Developing Your Intuition." I am constantly amazed at what beginners in the class come up with. One man's partner in the class was a lively, nicely dressed, older woman. He went through the exercise quickly, easily using his intuition to fill in the whole listwith one exception. The only category he couldn't figure out was "Career." He kept hearing the word "none," so he assumed she didn't work. When it came time for the partners to process the information, I heard a loud guffaw from the older woman. Then she exclaimed, "How could you possibly have known that I am a nun!"
Another student in the class was working with a partner and got stuck on the category of "Home." She found she kept getting impressions about the woman's kitchen. The student was concerned because the room kept changing from yellow, to light green, and then to peach. The woman laughed and explained that she was planning to have her kitchen painted. In fact, that morning before the class she had been going over color swatches with her husband. They were trying to decide between yellow, green, and peach!
Creating the Right Environment

Another important part of getting a clear reading is to set aside as many of my own opinions, feelings, and judgments as possible. In this way, intuitive counselors are similar to psychotherapists. I have found that much of the judgment I used to hold about others has diminished over the years as I have given more readings.
People usually act out, hurt others, and do irrational things because they've been so emotionally injured themselves. I'm not saying that to condone their behavior. But if you are reading for people like this, you need to respect and honor their path. They are the only ones who are ultimately responsible for their direction in life and for the outcomes of the choices they make. You can only be there as a guide to help along the way.
When You're Stuck
Just as you strive to make doing a reading comfortable for others, you must do the same for yourself. Sometimes you may have such high expectations of yourself that you put far more pressure on yourself than anyone else could. Of course, this can't possibly help you achieve relaxed focus.
Your intuition rarely acts in a radical fashion, such as shutting down. So take that to heart and simply help yourself to relax. When you feel that your access to intuitive information is blocked, try taking a few small steps:
