The story goes that a rancher named Mac Brazel heard a loud crash on the night of July 2, 1947. The next day he went to check it out and found bits of an unknown, paperthin metal material spread over an area three quarters of a mile long and 300 feet wide. The metal was extremely light, but couldn't be burnt, cut, or broken. There was also an indentation in the ground, covering 500 feet in one direction and 10 feet in the other. Several days later, Brazel reported it to the authorities, who never adequately explained the crash and other unusual occurrences around the same time period. |

In the study of UFOs, Roswell was the crash heard around the world. Since then, the study of UFOs has gained quite a following. These ''UFOlogists" have developed specific systems for classifying sightings. These may include simply seeing a flying light, seeing an object that is also recorded on radar, or having an encounter of the third kind: seeing an occupant of a UFO. According to expert Dr. J. Allen Hynek, author of The UFO Experience (Aberlard-Schuman, 1972), third encounters are believed to occur in about 1 percent out of every 650 reports. |
