tion in several different ways. You may sense that you're gaining insight into your own personal and spiritual growth, receiving messages from spirits with specific advice for yourself or someone else, or even relaying images that can change the course of art, science, or the world.

There are at least two ways to directly receive this type of information: spontaneous drawing and automatic writing. These skills are different than feeling highly focused and productive in your work. They require that your mind step aside and let your hands do the work. The less you think about itor anything at allthe better. Which is why an altered state of consciousness, which sidesteps the rational mind, is so crucial.
Spontaneous Drawing
Anyone who puts herself (or himself) into the right frame of mindan altered state of consciousnesscan experience spontaneous drawing. Once your mind is free from rational explanations and judgmental demands (such as ''my artwork must be beautiful"), you'll be better able to get to the true message that your mind is ready to reveal.
Before putting yourself in this frame of mind, prepare yourself for the artistic process. Get your pencils, chalk, or paintsor even clay if you're interested in sculptingready. Then meditate or reach a trance state and focus on a question or topic about which you want to receive insight. Keep your mind clear and wait. Once your hands begin to move, let them work independently of any rational efforts to control them. For example, if you feel a line looks out of proportion, don't worry about fixing it. In fact, if at all possible, try to avoid even looking at your artwork until your hands stop moving.
