Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs: A Journey of Self-Actualization |
Abraham Harold Maslow (19081970) was a leading proponent of humanistic psychology. Calling Freudian psychology too focused on illness, humanistic psychology concentrates instead on the individual, and his or her progress through the stages of life. This progress is called Maslow's hierarchy of needs. |

Maslow's hierarchy is one of several psychological models developed to represent the personal journey in archetypal symbols. In Maslow's definition, we progress from basic needs such as food and sex to the highest needs of self-actualization, which can ultimately fulfill our greatest human potential. |

The Tarot can be a rewarding tool in your own journey toward self-actualization. By studying the cards and their images, you begin to explore your own feelings, your ideas about the life you're living, and the ways in which you'd like to grow and evolve. In contemplating the cards, you're really contemplating yourself, your own very human nature. |
