Arlene shuffled the cards while contemplating Oprah and thinking about our question. We think you'll find that what the cards have to tell Oprah applies to all of uswhich, because they're Oprah's cards, should come as no surprise. |

Card 1: The Star. This card represents the conditions surrounding women in the 21st century. The Star here indicates that women will bring hope, inspiration, and guidance toward optimism in the years to come. |

Card 2: The Emperor. The second card is the opposition or conditions that could prove to be difficult for women in the next century. The Emperor here clearly represents male authority. It may indicate that power through men could be a struggle or a point of contention, but as it's upright, we think it represents that women and men will work together far better in the 21st century as they learn to understand and appreciate each other's differences. |

Card 3: 4 of Swords R. Here we find the foundationwhy we asked the question to begin with, and the 4 of Swords R indicates renewed activity as women become more involved in society and politics, and government and labor issues. Women will connect to society in a more intellectual, or logical, way, this card may be saying. By working in labor, politics, communications, and literature, women will make more real progress than in the past. |

Card 4: The Moon R. Here we find the past, in this case, the years preceding the 21st century. This is where women collectively have beenor what past experiences women have collectively learned up to this point in time. The Moon R here shows that women have already learned about using their intuition, feelings, sensitivities, and their nurturing energy for society's good. They've enjoyed taking care of people, attuning themselves to family, personal issues, and emotions. But, as we know, that's their past role! |

Card 5: 3 of Pentacles. The fifth card represents a condition that might occur or might be avoided, and the 3 of Pentacles here is a good card. We think this card could inspire women to take the opportunity it suggests: The 3 of Pentacles upright is recognition of women's skills and abilities, an understanding that everyone has gifts, abilities, and talents. The role of women in the 21st century could well be one of equal partnership with men, for being widely appreciated for having skills other than those of homemaking. Look at this card: On it you can see a man and a woman looking approvingly at a young artist's recent work. Men and women may very well work better together in the future than in the past! |

Card 6: Ace of Pentacles. This card represents what will happen or conditions that will manifest themselves. The Ace of Pentacles is all about new beginnings connected to money, resources, or investments. This indicates new work for women on the horizon, perhaps more job opportunitiesor new types of employment for which women weren't usually considered in the past. Clearly, the picture on this card illustrates new work to do, new soil to till, and new seeds to plant. |
