Past/Present/Future: Taking Stock
This type of spread relates our past experiences to the present and then shows a future outcome. It's used to show the inter-relationship between experiences and lessons you have learned and those you will learn.
This is quite an interesting spread. Arlene's tried it many times when clients really wanted to know why something happened in their past, how they're affected presently, and what will come of that past experience in the future.
A Sample Spread
Sarah was bothered by something she thought she hadn't properly brought to a close in her past. A strong romantic relationship that became a marriage had ended abruptly seven years later. Since that time, Sarah had had a hard time trusting any relationship.
Sarah shuffled the deck and then asked this question: What am I supposed to learn from my past marriage that will help me with my future?
For the Past/Present/Future Spread, seven cards are put out on the table after the deck has been shuffled and divided by three. The Querent again chooses the stack from which the cards are dealt.

What the Cards Mean
The first two cards of this spread represent past conditions.
Card 1: 6 of Wands. In the past, Sarah's marriage had been developing well and seemed solid and stable. The partnership appeared to be harmonious.
Card 2: 2 of Cups. The marriage brought luck and harmony to both, and both worked well together and offered help and understanding to each other. Not bad! Sarah said yes, that was how it was at the start of the marriage; all looked wellin the beginning.
