You can ask any type of questionbut make sure you want to know the answer! If you don't want to hear that you need to start saving money, maybe you'd better ask about your love life instead.
As for including timing in the question, when a reading says you'll get a new job, wouldn't you like to know when or where, or even what? The cards can answer those questionsif you phrase your question right.
Understanding Tarot Spreads
There are many different kinds of Tarot spreads, each specific to the type of reading you wish to do. Variety is the spice of life, we always say, so here's some Tarot spice:

If you just want to know a little bit about something, use a Three-Card Spread. (Lisa loves this one and uses it for her daily readings.)

If you want an overall picture of the events in your life, use the Horoscope Spread.

If you just want a yes or no, use the Wish Spread.

More universal is the Celtic Cross, which many readers use as a general, all purpose spread. We use it often in this book as well.
You can also make up your own spreads. Some people like the Three-Card, while others prefer to use a Four-Card Spread. Whatever feels right to you is fine.
The Most Commonly Used Spread
The Celtic, or Keltic, Cross is the most commonly used spread. Ten cards are laid out in the form of a cross and a staff. The cross represents the earth plane and the staff represents a connection to heaven; in other words, heaven and earth in communion.
