Sometimes, this card comes up reversed to tell us there's still deep-seated emotion and sensitivity, but the King can't express it or handle it at all. Instead, he'll stay detached, not tell the truth about an issue, or become reclusive, almost Hermit-like.
When the King of Cups is reversed, secrecy or shyness may be indicated, but the other cards around it can tell us more about him. Just remember, the King of Cups is emotional whether he's upright or reversed, but when those emotions are upside down, they can prove hard to handle.

Queen of Cups.
Upright Imagery and Meanings: The Queen of Cups sits on her beautiful throne, gazing into the cup of her imagination. Notice that this cup is closed, showing us that her thoughts are in the realm of the unconscious. The Queen is on the beach, with the quiet waters ebbing and flowing around her, showing that beauty and love surround her.
This sensitive Queen devotes herself to matters of the heart. Her attachment to others is strong and her desire to nourish and help others is evident as well. She's usually a good wife, a loving mother, and devoted to whatever she's committed herself to.
