Upright Meanings: This card used to be called the Tower of God or the Tower of Babel. It represents the unexpected events that can change your life or your perception of things. The clearest aspect of this card is the element of surprise. The Tower indicates a rude awakening of some sort, whether it's your old way of life coming suddenly to an end, or a release from a situation in which you were stuck. |

But the Tower may also forecast a wonderful unexpected event, such as a new baby. It might be Some Enchanted Evening when you may see a stranger/across a crowded room. The Tower may be the accident that forces you to reevaluate your values or lifestyle, or the wrong turn that causes you to end up in Oz's Emerald City. |

The Tower can also be something that no one expected, or an upsetting event of some kind. If you thought you had that new job, and then the company decided not to follow through on the offer for you, the Tower, sometimes called a reversal of fortune, is at play. You can't plan for what the Tower will offer up, thoughbecause there's no way to know what it will be. That's why it's called unexpected, right? |

Reversed Imagery and Meanings: When you turn the Tower upside down, the people are flying up instead of down. The bolt is coming from below, fromyou guessed itthe Devil in key 15. The people still don't look entirely happy, but it's quite possible that all is not lost. Something that shocked you initially may be coming to an end. Or maybe you'll soon be able to start over, putting the chaos and disruption behind you. |

The Tower reversed can also indicate a feeling that life isn't giving you a fair shake. Maybe you feel as if circumstances are conspiring against you, and that no matter what you do, you'll never come out on topas if you were, like these people, trying to fly without wings. You may feel backed into a corner, or stuck in a situation with no way out. This card is telling you to pay the piper and listen to the music. It's time to face what you've been avoiding so you can get on with the rest of your life. |
