Upright Imagery: A nude woman and man stand beneath the arms of Raphael, the angel of Air, who gives them his blessing. Behind the woman is the Tree of Knowledge, and behind the man is a tree bearing the twelve signs of the zodiac. The man, who looks toward the woman, represents the conscious mind and reason. The woman represents the subconscious and emotion, and so it is she who can look up to the angel Raphael.
Upright Meanings: The Lovers card upright is about making choices in love and romance. With this card, there's always the possibility of a new romance or a new direction for the heart. The angel Raphael indicates inspiration from above, and so, love at all levelsspiritual, physical, and emotional.

You may be trying to make choices and decisions for the highest good in your life. Or you may find new love, or the love of something new starting out in your life. The Lovers card is all about learning the ways of the heart, attraction, and the desire for cooperation.
Reversed Imagery and Meanings: When we turn the Lovers upside down, the mountain becomes prominent and seems to divide the couple, and so represents obstacles or division. The upside-down angel has no power to give the couple energy from above, and so the relationship is hard to develop. Consequently, you might find delays in attaining a desired result with someone or something you love.
