A Babe in the Woods

Upright Imagery: A carefree young man in yellow boots and a flowing tunic looks up at the bright yellow sky, about to step off a cliff. In his left hand, he carries a white rose; in his right, a satchel on a pole. His little dog dances at his feet, just as happy, carefreeand unawareas he is.
Upright Meanings: What you do with this particular adventure, whether it be life, a new job, or a new relationship, is up to you. You're entering into the situation with excitement and childlike wonder: The Fool is full of optimism, hope, and the freedom to explore without any preconceived notions. Upright, this card means a fresh start, a clean slate, and a wonderful beginning.

Reversed Imagery and Meanings: When we look at the Fool reversed, we see the same desire to seek new freedoms, start new beginnings in life, and explore different horizons, but reversed, the journey could be unsatisfying, or fraught with foolhardy actions. Look at the imagery in this reversed position: Upside down, the satchel will lose all of its contents, the rose will fall out of the Fool's hand, and the sun is setting instead of rising. This Fool looks like he'll fall off the cliff head-first. And the little dog, poor pup, can't help his master, because he's falling along with him!
The Fool reversed can represent that the path you're now on will have delays and troubles, or that you'll make unwise choices along the way. Foolhardy or thoughtless actions can lead to unsatisfactory experiences, and wanting freedomor anythingtoo fast or too soon can mean you won't be able to handle what's coming into your life later on down the road.
