I usually do a light meditation before I see clients and ask my guides, angels, and God to help me with my readings. I ask that I be a clear and open channel for any of their wisdom that my clients need to hear. I find that the best protection to my own energy is getting enough rest, paying attention to my intuition regarding my own life, eating a healthy, balanced diet, setting appropriate boundaries in my work, and making sure I have enough time for play and fun.
I usually find my work energizing and I enjoy it. It's a privilege to watch people grow and change, and I feel honored to be included in that process. I also have learned to be clear in my boundaries while doing readings. I have learned that I can do only a certain number of readings in a day or a week. If I do more than that, I get exhausted. I've learned how to say "No" to requests that drain me.
Problem Clients
Of course, life would be less interestingand certainly less challengingif I didn't have the occasional really difficult client. A difficult client for me is someone who wants me to have all the answers. He hopes that I will have a revelation that will dramatically change his life, yet he does nothing to create any changes on his own.
I feel drained by people who don't take the initiative to help change themselves. If I reach a point where I feel I can't help them when they call for an appointment, I make an appropriate referral. I have a huge resource list of therapists, career counselors, mediums, holistic physicians, and personal coaches, to name a few. Many times people call me because they don't know whom else to call. (But, dear reader, I hope you don't do that. The resources we list in Appendix C can help you take the initiative to help yourself. These organizations can lead you to the specific information or person you need much quicker than I can!)
Sharing Psychic Information
Receiving intuitive information is one thing; sharing it is quite another. Knowing how to share intuitive information is an art in and of itself. The unwritten social rules of sitting down to do a reading can be as complex as dining at the Vanderbilts'.
