''There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy," says Hamlet. This statement certainly applies to your inner world as well, which, according to many philosophers and yogis, exists on many levels.
Many of us Westerners grew up with the idea that the individual exists on just two levels: body and soul. Other cultures and belief systems, from the Egyptians to the Theosophists, express the idea that each individual exists on several different levelsfive, seven, ten, or more. As we'll show you in this chapter, traveling through those levels will allow you to explore yet another aspect of your psychic abilities.
Koshas: Yoga's Sheaths of Existence
The Eastern tradition of yoga is a good place to start a discussion of a human being's levels of existence. Within the yogic tradition is a tenet called the Sheaths of Existence, which divides various levels of being into the specific functions. Let's take a look:
