the pain was unbearable. Since I believe that the body's symptoms are often a message about something that is out of balance, I finally decided to pay attention to my own body's intuition.
One day when I had the beginnings of a headache, I sat down to meditate. I imagined that I could give the pain in my head a voice, and I was determined to hear it and heed it. To my surprise, I received a rush of information, ''You're always doing too much. You need to slow down. You don't have to do everything. You can lean on other people sometimes, you know! You don't always have to be strong!" It was true. I'm a doer. I like taking on the challenge of accomplishing big thingsand I haven't always known my limits. I am usually independent in the extreme, so I have difficulty asking anyone for help. This experience was the first time that I had connected those issues with my headaches.
I've now learned to pay attention at the first inkling of a headache. I immediately ask myself two things:

What can I let go of right now?

What can I do to nurture myself?
I can't say that the headaches are entirely a thing of the past, but their frequency and intensity have greatly diminished. And so has my stress level!
We all just need to keep in mind that a disease is not our enemy. It may be a messenger from our intuitive guide who is trying to get our attention. It can be an incredible gift of wisdom that leads us onto a new path.
Trusting What the Earth Knows: The Life Force of Nature
According to the ancient sages who understand the workings of the life energy, or life force, or chi, we are all born with a certain amount of this energy. We can recharge ourselves through our interactions with the earth, sunlight, air, food, drink, and positive relationships with others.
Getting in touch with these natural forces helps us gain a connection with them, and with our place in the universe. This provides us with yet another way to become better attuned to all the information that surrounds us. We can intake the energy and insight that the earth provides and release our prayers or thoughts of grateful acknowledgment for our place in the grand scheme of things. In the language of the yogis, this gratefulness could be called "love."
Now that we're getting a closer look at how our bodies work in relation to our minds and the universal mind, what are we going to do about it? Chapter 11 will explain the basics of healing, which will then lead us on to chapters that look at new pathways for using intuitive energy to help others, as well as ourselves.
