couldn't figure out why I felt that way, because there was no apparent reason. I rationalized my reaction for some weeks, but couldn't shake the impression that something was wrong. I later learned that she had been spreading rumors about me in an attempt to get me fired and take my position. This is a form of psychic attack.

How can you avoid having your energy adversely affected? You can strengthen your own force field by maintaining a positive attitude. When your own thoughts are full of joy, happiness, and hope you are less apt to feel the effects of others' negative thoughts and attitudes. Have you ever had a really bad day and everybody around you seems to just add to the awfulness of it? The theory is that ''Like attracts like." When you feel up and full of energy, you attract a similar positive energy from others. The more loving, optimistic, and hopeful you feel, the more your up energy attract others of like mind.
Even on our best days, intuitives often feel a need to separate themselves from a flood of psychic information. We want to be able to turn it off when we're ready to rest. As a way of separating myself from my everyday life, I practice a number of meditations before I see clients. I usually do the one described early in this chapter. Here are a few more techniques; try them and then decide what works best for you.
If you are an empath who often picks up on others' feelings and energy, try this helpful technique:
Imagine yourself enclosed in a bubble of white light. The light fills you and surrounds you with energy and peace. See this light flowing down to you from above. Say to yourself, "Only that which is good and needful may enter."
If you are feeling drained by someone close to you, try the following method of strengthening yourself:
Visualize an intense, bright blue globe of light above your head. It explodes like fireworks so that the bright blue lights shimmer around you. Feel the energy that the light draws to you. Say to yourself, "I am energized and strong. I attract only good."
If you are going into a difficult negotiation or situation, first define the outcome you would like to create. Then try this visualization:
Imagine yourself standing under a waterfall of energy. Think about the qualities that you need to have for this difficult situation. Do you need power, strength, love, or courage? Visualize the energy in the waterfall pouring the quality you desire through your body, soaking into all your cells and then surrounding you. See your guide there to help you and add to this energy. Imagine the challenge you are going into and see yourself successful and all parties feeling good.
