One way to let the universe know you're ready to receive, and to affirm that fact yourself, is to prepare your mind. Getting your mind to slow down and then focus on staying empty is no easy feat. In fact, the challenge is so great that many spiritual leaders have devoted their lives to mastering this ability. A few examples of those who searched long and hard for a quiet mind are Buddha, Yogananda, and the Dalai Lama.
So why, you may ask, have humans evolved such a high level of intelligence only to have to empty our minds to achieve a higher level of consciousness? Well, to step up to that higher level, we need to step outside our individual, ego-oriented ways of perceiving things, which brings us right back to our psychic sense: To understand more about the unseen world, we need to keep our minds open to receiving information in ways that transcend the physical world.

The true masters of the open mindBuddha and the Dalai Lama, for examplerecommend a few practices that have stood the test of time. These include meditation, mantras, mandalas, and the classic wisdom, ''Know thyself." This is a phrase that resounds throughout many schools of philosophical thought. It is often credited to Plato, who included it in his writing. But it actually made its debut on the marquis of the temple of Apollo at Delphi, that favorite hot spot for oracular insight.
