Seemorg Matrix Work is a psychodynamic,
body-centered, transpersonal psychotherapy that fuses energy psychology,
depth psychology, integrative psychotherapy, traumatology, and spiritual
practice.
It is based on a new definition and theory of trauma
that situates trauma at the center of the treatment. It focuses upon the
causal relationship between trauma and psychological disorders,
destructive behavioral patterns, psychogenic physical conditions, and
spiritual limitations. In Seemorg Matrix Work™, a trauma is
defined as:
any occurrence which, when we
think of it or it is triggered by some present event, evokes difficult
emotions and/or physical symptoms, gives rise to negative beliefs,
desires, fantasies, compulsions, obsessions, addictions or
dissociation, blocks the development of positive qualities and
spiritual connection, and fractures human wholeness.
By this definition, most of our suffering originates
in trauma.
The animating value behind Seemorg Matrix Work is the
thoroughgoing, durable removal of suffering. To bring about thorough,
lasting results, Seemorg Matrix treatment is structured according to the
LeShan-Clinton hypothesis. Originally based in psychologist
Lawrence LeShan’s pioneering investigation into the psychosocial
precursors of cancer, this hypothesis states that a significant trauma,
usually in childhood, followed later in life by the same kind of trauma,
usually in adulthood, frequently results in a disorder, disease, and/or
spiritual blockage that develops within seven years of the later trauma.
In order to treat an issue so thoroughly that it will
not recur again in some form, Seemorg Matrix Work, following the LeShan-Clinton
hypothesis, first finds and treats the early trauma that is the primary
origin of the issue. This is called the Originating Trauma. Once
this has been treated in all its aspects, Seemorg Matrix Work treats the
trauma that, within seven years before the onset of the problem,
stimulates the problem into existence. This is called the Initiating
Trauma. The connection between the Originating and
Initiating traumas is treated next, and finally, any the symptoms
of the issue that still remain. This usually resolves the issue to the
point that it does not recur.
The result is a surprisingly easy, painless, and
thorough way to treat psychological disorders, psychogenic illnesses,
and spiritual blockages. Conceptualizing both situational and
developmental injury as trauma, the Seemorg Matrix therapist treats both
by utilizing energy protocols that are precisely formulated for the type
of trauma at hand. The following list of Seemorg Matrix Work protocols
describes the purpose of each:
-
The Traumatic Emotion
Protocol—removes the aftereffects
of both developmental and situational trauma.
-
The Traumatic Pattern
Protocol—removes the cumulative
emotional and physical aftereffects of repetitive traumas.
-
The Family Clearing
Protocol—removes the traumatic
aftereffects of family dysfunction, even on the physical level.
-
The Core Belief Protocol—transforms
the negative beliefs that develop as an aftermath of trauma into
realistic, positive ones.
-
The Positive Qualities
Protocol— stimulates the
development of positive qualities previously crushed or stunted by
trauma.
-
The Boundary Protocol—establishes
healthy boundaries.
-
The Emotion Protocol—reestablishes
emotional feeling and expression for those who have dissociated or
repressed them.
-
The "Parts" Protocols—
transform negatively constellated introjects, objects, inner
figures, alters, and/or archetypes into positively constellated
parts.
-
The Detox Drainage Protocol—
facilitates the normal drainage of body toxicity.
-
The Psychogenic Illness
Process— treats psychogenic
illnesses.
-
The Energy Toxin
Desensitization Protocol—
painlessly, quickly, and lastingly desensitizes allergies,
sensitivities, and energy toxins.
-
The Bodily Dissociation
Protocol—reestablishes bodily
connection, experience, and embodiment for those who are dissociated
from the body or have repressed its sensations.
-
The Divine Connection
Protocol—removes blocks to Divine
connection.
-
The Spiritual Practice
Protocol— (re)establishes the
ability to do spiritual practice of any kind.
Seemorg Matrix Work is also based on a philosophy
that defines the strong, positive connection between therapist and
client as the basis for successful therapeutic work. It espouses full
presence—a combination of groundedness, embodiment, emotional
connection, and spiritual connection—on the part of the therapist as an
essential aid to developing full presence in the client. Thus, active
role modeling is a fundamental component of the work.
To establish and maintain positive transference and
countertransference, Seemorg Matrix Work also offers the
Transference/Countertransference Protocols. These protocols obviate
the need for the suffering that clients often experience while working
through intense negative transferences. At the same time, the protocols
focus attention on and treat the ultimate, usually early source of the
transference phenomena: traumatic parental (or other early) experience.
Numerous clinical reports of the successful use of
Seemorg Matrix Work to treat anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD,
trauma, abuse, psychogenic illness, and spiritual disorders, and the
dissociative and personality disorders, have already accumulated,
although definitive research support is yet to be established. The
following case illustrates the long-term treatment of a young man with a
lifelong history of panic attacks, dissociation, decompensation, and
psychogenic illnesses:
"Jay" was 26 when he came
into therapy after three hospitalizations. He was dissociative and
prone to frequent episodes of decompensation. At least one alter
appeared early in the treatment, along with a number of intensely
negative introjects. He was unable to concentrate, hold a job, or even
read a book. He experienced several panic attacks every day, and he
spent a great deal of time hiding in his room in terror. He had no
girlfriends, and he reported that he could not even conceive of
enjoying sex. In all his adolescent and early adult sexual
experiences, he had felt like he was being raped. He also suffered
from inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, and allergies to numerous
substances. The onset of each of these physical conditions was between
ages five and eight.
Jay gave the impression of
being an innocent, frightened, five-year-old. His frail ego structure
barely kept him from fragmenting during routine activities, and he had
no sense of feeling protected in the world. But he also presented as
being highly motivated to work hard in therapy if it could help him
become well.
As trust developed, he told
his therapist that he had been frequently molested and raped by his
older brother from ages five to twelve. The brother threatened his
death if he told his parents, so he remained silent. His parents,
focused on creating an upscale life, saw nothing. His father was
symbiotic and overprotective; his mother was prone to frequent,
sudden, unexpected rages that frightened Jay terribly.
All of Jay’s issues were,
following Seemorg Matrix theory, conceptualized as being rooted in
trauma. After he was able to recognize the connection between his
childhood rapes and his traumatic adolescent and adult experiences
with sex, for instance, he and his therapist listed all the childhood
rape traumas he could remember and treated each of them with the
Traumatic Emotion Protocol. These were the Originating Traumas.
Jay clearly gained ego strength from each treatment. Next they treated
all his traumatic adolescent and adult sexual experiences. These were
the Initiating Traumas. As his ego strength progressively
increased, his sense of personal strength and safety developed as
well.
With the Traumatic Pattern
Protocol, Jay and his therapist treated many traumatic patterns, as
embedded in statements such as "I was raped continually," "I was not
protected," "I was unseen," "I was allowed no boundaries," and "I was
used," in order to remove any additional traumatic emotions and
physical sensations that might have been missed. Then, they treated
all the symptoms of these traumas, from panic attacks to Jay’s
reticence about meeting women, with the Traumatic Emotion Protocol.
They used the Core Belief
Protocol to install new positive beliefs about sexuality and women,
such as "I can have sex without being raped or used," "Sex is
pleasureful," and "I can freely choose whether and when I have sex."
With the Positive Qualities Protocol, Jay and his therapist instilled
a number of positive qualities for development, including strength,
courage, compassion, love, and self-protection. They are still using
the Family Clearing Protocol to treat issues involving Jay’s
experiences with his mother’s rage and his father’s symbiotic
overprotectiveness. Significant progress in these family-of-origin
issues is evidenced by a marked increase of independence in Jay’s
thinking and behavior and a newfound ability to tolerate anger in
himself and others.
Although the Psychogenic
Illness Protocol is still being used to treat his Inflammatory Bowel
Disease, Jay’s symptoms are much reduced. He and his therapist plan to
use it next to treat his asthma. They are already using the Seemorg
Energy Toxin Protocol to treat his multiple allergies, which have
already been significantly reduced.
After two years of therapy,
Jay is able to function with little anxiety and has had no recent
episodes of decompensation. Not only is he able to concentrate, read,
and study, he is earning a B.A., on a premed track, and carrying an A
average. His goal is to become a pediatrician and reduce the suffering
of children.
