Any of you guys have a Wii? I have one but it's just sitting in the corner. I bought it because my girlfriend wanted to play one, and I wanted to play my old gamecube games again since my gamecube broke. I want to know how hard it is to softmod a wii, or if there's better ways to do it. Don't want to pay money for shitty Wii games.

And, I didn't post this on /v/ because /v/ is full of faggots with a superiority complex and PC fanboys. I have a gaming PC, and PS3. But I want to play some Wii games on my Wii. Not an emulator and all that other shit.

    any help would be appreciated.

First of all you need to get the Homebrew Channel on there. More than likely you'll use Letterbomb for it.

Then look for the latest version of 'ModMii'

It's a program and it'll take you step by step through the process.

do I need an external HDD for it? don't have one and I'm kinda strapped for cash at the moment. Probably well worth it if I get one though anyways. Going to need to put the games on something. unless I can run them from the SD card I have?

Not hard at all. no clue how to do it.
My brother modded my wii as a christmas gif - he said you don't even have to open the wii-case. And all games can be played from USB

It'd be recommended. you can rip games yourself after but alot of the stuff runs anywhere from 500MB - 7GB

Stuff like Skyward Sword is almost 4GB and Super Smash Brothers is almost 7.

not really sure you can run them from the SD though, although i've never tried, it'd have to be pretty big.

damn, didn't know they were that big lol.
I got an SDHC card, 16gb, specifically for my Wii. This video I'm watching on youtube says you can't use SDHC cards though, only standard SD. Doesn't make sense to me but I'll try anyways I guess. Thanks for the help. I had read a few things online about modding a Wii and it was all mixed reviews and what-not.

modding is easy, like I said just use letterbomb, all you need is the MAC address of your Wii and you download a file and put it on an SD card then into your Wii. I didn't know what I was doing either, barely got the hang of it a few weeks ago.

ModMii is a program you run on the comp and it asks you what you want to install and it even generates a step-by-step guide on what to do.

Also if you're looking for smaller games, New Super Mario Brothers Wii is only like 3-500Mb.

Also make sure you get 'Wii Backup Manager'

thanks man, I'm definitely trying it tomorrow. maybe tonight if I stop being a faggot and quit falling asleep lol. How much of a chance is there of me bricking my Wii? And is there a way to restore it if I do fuck it up completely ?

    >>378637324
from what i've heard bricking is rare. you might get the occasional crash (black screen with white text and random numbers) but it's not that big of a deal.

I think in teh guide it'll tell you to backup the 'NAND' you'll want to copy that elsewhere after because it's the kind of thing you'll need in the event that anything goes wrong.

extremely easy to softmod a wii.
    need a few things though

sd card (prefer 2gb or lower[just to start the mod] after up to 16gb is good)
    sd card reader
usb flash drive (prefered 8gb+, lots of external portable hdd's work as well)
ability to read and follow instructions more in depth than this advice
very small amount of patience, considering how truly easy softmodding is made for the masses

    www.wiihacks.com/recommended-faqs-guides-tutorials-only/96886-guide-softmod-any-wii.html

best usb loader software is configurable usb loader

only 2 that allow use of NTFS file system are WiiFlow and Configurable USB Loader.

WiiFlow crashes a LOT. I know from personal experience and switched to CFG many months ago. The only thing I liked about WiiFlow in hindsight was the cheats accessibility
    >unlock EVERYTHING in MK:Wii without going through the game, being already pro, saves time
    >etc.

    wasn't worth the crashes though.

OH, OP here. Totally forgot to ask any of this. Fucking main reason I want to do it too. lol.

If I mod my Wii, can I play old games on the Wii? SNES, N64, Genesis, NES, etc..like the virtual console shit. Or just run emulators or some shit.

The only issue i've had with WiiFlow was with Skyward Sword, It worked perfectly fine for a while, and idk what the fuck I did but it crashes anytime I try it, had to use usb loader gx to play it.
put it on another HDD and it works fine so who knows what I did.

Whenever you get around to installing WADs and whatnot.

    www(DOT)mediafire(DOT)com/Timewalker#zk2hchc7ozen4

DON'T INSTALL MORE THAN YOUR WII HAS ROOM FOR.

You basically install them onto the Wii first THEN copy them to an SD, just don't do too many at once.

If you dont have a HDD you can burn them in DVD-R and play them via Neogamma, HDD is much better because of loading times.

And I recommend you to stick to the same guide foe everything, or the same forums at least.

For installing the .wad files, get them to your SD card, and install them with Multimod manager app inside the homebrew channel.
