Hey guys, I want to move to Brazil for the maximum 90 days.

What do I need to know? What kind of paper work will I have to fill out? My aunt owns a farm there, but I want to rent out a place for myself.

My budget is $2000 (USD) a months, bills included. Does that seem like reasonable amount to get a house on the beach in Rio?

I'm going all out with what I have to make this trip special for me, how do you guys suggest I get to know lots of locals?

How much does food cost over there? Any natives here think they can help me?

brazil is poor, so naturally it won't be expensive as long as you steer away from tourist traps

also, lots of ass

So is the $2000 a reasonable price for a beach house in Rio de Janeiro?

What other states are similar to Rio in terms of people (but not violence), beaches, and cost (Hopefully lower)?

My aunt lives in somewhere and I'm only using her as a way to get into Brazil.

Sounds like an awesome idea. Know any Portugese? Have any Brazilian friends? If no then put it off until you have one of the two. Also don't forget plane tickets, add another $2k on top for getting there and back, taxis to and from the airport, etc.

I can speak Portuguese, yeah.

No Brazilian friends that live in Brazil though, but I plan to make some through forums. I already have money saved for the tickets (I found them for $900 round trip, $500 at one point).

Any Brazfags have any input? What are the best places for foreigners to go and find a nice house on the beach while not spending thousands a month?

Or, what are local business like? How much would it cost to eat out everyday day?

OP, bump. I just woke up.

Brazil is a fucking shithole. Stay away.

You'd have a better shot finding a house/apartment on the beach in a different resort town like Praia Grande (below Sao Paulo) or Torres or somewhere small instead of Rio

It won't be very hard to rent a house there, and who knows you might get a girl or boyfriend there=3 (hint:say you came from america then you hit the jackpot)

Rio de Janeiro? LOL
Welcome to Dengue!

I've got most of that, but I think I'm gonna look into hiring some private security for my house. What will that cost? $100 a month? Is it that bad in Brazil that I need it? My American accent is huge.

I want to spend no less than $1500 a month on the house alone, the rest can go to whatever.

Rio is just too expensive, even for a gringo. Stick to smaller cities or resorts or whatever. It comes naturally that bigger cities will cost more. Why not stay near your aunt? Where does she live?

bump, I may want to do this back home

seriously, stay away from Rio. your money will absolutely vanish around here. and there are no "house by the beach", only hotels and buildings. also, we are currently having an outbreak of the Dengue virus, and i bet you don't want to spend three weeks out of your 90 days in bed.

if you still want to come, post a thread when you get here. we can hang out at the local tourist spots. i am usually at copacabana anyway.
