Going to Japan in 25 days. I'll be in Nagoya for the year on study abroad. I'll be attending Nanzan University. What kinds of stuff is there to do?

Also, how is money over there? I'm afraid that I won't have enough saved up to survive. I'm bring about $2,500 or so. I'll be with a host family or on campus, but I'm still worried.

Do you get a meal plan attached to your tuition for school? If you do, I think 2,500 might be enough if you don't go nuts buying useless (non-necessities) things.

With a meal plan, just eat at school primarily and try not to overdo it on night outs with friends. If you go out with your host family, they'll usually cover the bill.

I get breakfest and dinner but I think lunch is out of my own pocket with regards to the host family. Not sure how it works if I live on campus to be honest.

This depends on the university, although I would suspect so. You will also be shunned by a lot of people. They are typically kind to tourists but not so nice to gaijins who attempt to stay.

What are you studying? If it isn't crucial to be in Japan in particular, somewhere else may have been a better choice.

You really should've picked a more interesting city. At Nagoya, there's decent shopping and Holiday Nagoya is a nice but tiny club, if you're into the smaller jrock/visual kei bands. But apart from that, there really isn't that much to do in there. I mean, Nagoya's a big city so it's not like you'll be bored in days. There are a few sights, some cool touristy places near the marina (I had fun confusing my friends with the pictures I took at the "Italian village"), etc. But all in all, it simply doesn't compare favorably to Tokyo or Osaka/Kyoto areas. Do day trips if you can afford it. Maybe you can trick your homestay family to take you around.
