Anyone have been to Turkestan? Any thoughts, opinions, etc.?
>> Alborz
I definetly want to go this summer, but I'm also including Tajikistan in my itinerary too.
>> Pyromaniac
I want to visit all four - especially Uzbekistan. You know, Tashkent, Samarkanda...

Even though - Siberia first.

Pyromaniac :D
Did you have a chance to look at my responses before the thread died?
>> Anonymous
I had a friend who grew up there. He loved it.
>> Pyromaniac
Well, the last answer I saw was something in some turkic language about something Lenin-related.

Did you write something else?
>> Alborz
Yeah, I wrote more about Uighurstan and a small bit on Tajiks in Uzbekistan.

Bleh, It's 10:27 in the morning and I haven't slept yet, so I'll type it here later if you want it :B

Ok.
I'm going to a concert anyway.
Thank God, that on /trv/ threads don't dissapear so fast.

Hookay, my bit on Uighurstan:
I sort of don't agree on it being a seperate state from China, basically they had their own nation in the 8th/9th century and that was it really. Before and after that they were either nomadic or part of some other empire. I just don't see what legitimacy it has as having its own nation [then again this can apply for a lot of Central Asian states, I think that they should all unite personally]. If they became independent then so should every nation of peoples, and I think this is sort of counterproductive.

As for Tajiks in Uzbekistan, they have faced some discrimination in the past, i.e. name changes, denial of people being Tajik, etc. Like in Samarqand and stuff there is a lot of Tajik people and you'll hear a lot of Persian being spoken. But I still don't think they should have their part being independent/taken away from Uzbekistan, because then that would mean the Turkmen parts of Iran should be given to Turkmenistan, etc. Just have more mutual respect for eachother basically.

And who here has been to Turkistan?

>>81197
Cool, what country/area if you don't mind my asking?

I thought I deleted that post... Actually, it was Turkmenistan, not Turkestan. lolmind meld
>> Alborz
>>81377
Oh cool, I'm part Turkmen myself so I was just curious :P
>> Pyromaniac
>>81365

If I recall, Uighurs had two episodes in XX c. of independency. Also I'm 100% sure, that somewhere after 9th century they had own state.

The flag of the First Islamic Republic of East Turkestan (Uighuristan)

Kokbayraq ftw

I've seen that flag before; actually this picture I posted, I'm getting it done on a T-shirt :D
Also, Crimean Tatars call their flag Kok Bayraq too, which isn't surprising and goes to show how far spread we are :]

As a Polish I have, let's say, "neutral" opinion 'bout Tatars. :]
I always thought, that Tatars are rather mongolians than Turks.
Also I was always confused 'bout racial alignment of the turks - you are rather white or rather yellow?
>> Alborz
>>81569
Haha that's understandable.
Actually my Persian side despises Mongols and says that Mongols are an embarrasment to Turks, that they shouldn't relate themselves to such "barbarians". My Turkmen side just says that we're not Mongols but leave it at that. Then you have Pan-Turanians and they're another story.

And about your second point, I lol'd because that confuses me too :/ I mean some Turks claim to be white [and the ones in Turkey I do consider white] and then you have the Pan-Turanians who say that Mongols and Turks are one. My own thinking is that we're a mix of yellow and white, and we don't really fit into any specific category. I.e. us Turkmen aren't exactly white; for the most part we have tanned skin and brown hair and brown/hazel eyes, and you have Qazaqs/Uighurs who look Oriental, etc. To say we're one or the other is a bit weird, so I just say we're mixed between white/oriental.
>> Alborz
Oops, by second point I mean your last question, haha.

i have no way of knowing who "you" are

>>81605
yea it's fucking useless for travel. it's actually pretty simple to get visas, but you still have to go somewhere each time and physically GET it, sometimes do some dumbass interview with a consular official (esp for western nations). inconvenient.
>> Alborz
Um.....
My name is Alborz, the posts above this one with the name Alborz are all written by me, genius.
Since you're clearly a blind turd, I'll post what I said:
"I sort of don't agree on it being a seperate state from China"
"If they became independent then so should every nation of peoples, and I think this is sort of counterproductive."
And I fully support Tibet also being part of China [actually considering moving to China] so idk why you're being a tard.

what's the weather like there?

>>81746
Mm where? Turkestan is pretty huge and there are like 5 countries, not including areas like Uighurstan.

No, they assume they know what's NOT best for you, silly. It's called realpolitik.

>> Alborz
>>81810
I'm not Turkish; I'm 3/4 Persian 1/4 Turkmen which is a Turkic group that is not from Turkey.
Idk why they're weird; I laugh though at what shitty immigrants you guys get for the most part [I'm in Canada and the vast majority where I'm from are fine].
>> Pyromaniac
>>81591

Of course it's not a country, just because it's NOW yours, and because you said so.
And I don't care what best for you, I care for what is best for us.
Enjoy your censored internet.
