I lived in Australia for four years myself back in the 90s. Lived in Melbourne but visited Sydney, Canberra and the Gold Coast plus most of Victoria. Can't really recommend Canberra though but the other destinations I visited were great.

PROTIP: Visit Oz between November and February for obvious reasons.

I lived there for 8 years, just left a year ago. go to Brisbane and Melbourne. Sydney is a craphole.
Go around mid feb-early march, it's more temperate for tourist folk not used to the humidity, if you go to Queensland. The reef is well worth seeing - just don't touch anything. That includes your feet. If it looks like a rock, it's probably a stonefish.

I have been pretty much the whole way up and down the east coast, and I liked mid north/north NSW coast the best. Lots of lovely little beach towns. However it might not be a foreigner's cup of tea in which case I'd probably recommend Sydney. It has beaches, lots of shit to do, decent-ish weather, etc.

Melbourne is always cold and flat, and Brisbane has a dirty brown river. Nice places, but really, you can choose from: cold/flat, hot/brown, or decent weather/beaches.

Having said that, Sydney can be a nightmare trying to get around, and it's not like bigger always equals better. I liked Brisbane CBD area a lot but those grand views of the river along with the relatively shitty inner suburbs make it a pretty bad choice, unless you are fine with living in the CBD for your short stay.

They're just the capitals though. You could also consider Gold Coast, Cairns, Newcastle, etc.

Western Australia is the equivelant to the Southern States of USA.
IGNORANT, YUCK.

Go to Gold Coast Go to Google images and type in Gold Coast, Australia.

It's gorgoues. You'll love it

apparently melbourn has the best looking girls, but further north is where you go for more tanned, skinny, blond flowing haired girls.

Everywhere you go will be filled with wogs.

I live on the GoldCoast and it's really growing. If you have money it's a great place for fun, if you don't have much then grab a time machine and go back to pre-yuppie GC.

Otherwise personally i'd stay to water things, hire boats, see islands, frasure island is nice (next to hervey bay, if you want a good example of the Australian bogan lifestyle) I haven't been too far north or west so i can't comment on the hotter places.

What's up with the aboriginal folk? They seem really pissed off at the English/Europeans for coming to Australia and seem to be demanding reparations, but what exactly did the migration do to them? How did it affect their lives? Surely they just stayed in the same places, worshipping Ayer's Rock etc., while the English set up civilization mostly on the coastal regions.

It's such a messed up situation, and I know fuck all about it.

We introduced alcohol and porn into their culture, from which it's never recovered; plus we had a policy of forced assimilation up until the 70s.

The abos have good reason to carry on to this day, but a lot of them give the rest of them a shit name because they act like massive faggots about it

It's also a problem of socioeconomics - all the public infrastructure such as doctors, D&A counsellors, police, psych programes, childhood therapists, educators, etc. required to alcohol harm minimisation work in the metro areas simply doesn't exist in the remote areas, thus drug abuse gets to reign freely

Pre-emptive rebuttal:

No, stormfaggots/hansonites, it DIDN'T vastly improve blackfella's lot, because a) the life expectancy disparity to date is still GIGANTIC GAPING HALLWAY wide, and b) the overall QoL for blackie pre-1788 would have been arguably much better

Melbourne, Victoria in general (particularly Gippsland, the Grampians, the Otways, Surfcoast and the Alps) and Tasmania.
