Question /trv/: I heard england likes to refer to the US as "the colonies", so do ireland and scotland have petnames for the US???

They don't call us "the colonies" do they? It's not like we were their colonies, and besides I thought ireland liked to seperate itself from england.

In england we do not refer to the US as "the colonies."

Any pet names we have are not very nice

No one in England ever calls the US the colonies - don't flatter yourself with these 'pet' names America.

Indeed. In fact, we deny any connection between us and that shithole whenever possible.

The colonies = white Commonwealth (Canada, Aus., NZ).

US is not white enough or in the Commonwealth.

'ameriker and amerikkka' - nope, never heard either of these - I think someone's pulling your leg on them.

To be honest I can't think of any nicknames for America at the minute...

I can't really see how that is flattering in the slightest. Perhaps less rude than real insults, but not very flattering.

It implies that we are nostalgic to the days when you actually were out colonies - therefore we wish you were still our colonies out of habit, which implies that you are a desirable asset. Whereas in truth:

'we deny any connection between us and that shithole whenever possible.'

Geez, what's your problem?

My problem is, I have no real life other than the internet, and it's by choice, which is even worse.

Really? My interpretation was completely different. It sounded more like: "Remember when you were OUR bitch? Do you?"

... Which is not very eloquent, but I think you get the point.

Yeah I get your point of view too - it's like, thank fuck we got out when we did, and lol@you now.

Noone in England calls America anything other than America, the USA or the US.
Americans are sometimes called Yanks, but that's about it.
