Sup, /trv/. I'm about to get jetlagged like a motherfucker.

In two hours, I'll leave for the airport, which takes two hours, and from there I'll wait for two hours for the flight. It's a long, awkward wait, but what the fuck, I can't really miss this flight, so yeah.

I'm flying to the USA from Japan, and according to my calculations, I'll arrive at the airport at what would be 3 AM of my current time. From there, I still have a couple of flights to catch.

tl;dr: What's the best way to deal with jetlag?

I got back from a two week vacation in Japan and Thailand (-2 hours from Japan) and I had zero jetlag there. Here's what I did. I didn't have to try very hard to stay awake on the plane when necessary. I was so damn excited, that I really couldn't sleep very much.

As others have said, try to stay up around 24 hours before your flight, maybe less if necessary. Just don't exhaust yourself, because you can get sick from your body's physical exhaustion. When you get to Japan, try to plan on doing as much walking/physical exercise as possible during the day. Passing out at night will just come naturally then.

What you REALLY need to get ready for is the jetlag when returning to the states. I've been back for a little over a week and I still can't sleep right. Fawk.

Enjoy Japan, I now hate America because of it.

... oh and also try not to do anything that's too strenuous on your eyes. Reading small print + trying to stay awake = near impossible.

when you get to where you're going, take off your shoes and socks, walk around on the bathroom rug and make fists with your toes.

The only good (and considerably bad, sometimes) part about America is that we are more outspoken than the Japanese. I hear living in Japan can be slightly shitty because you can never get a direct response from anyone, because they're overly polite and beat around the bush a lot. They won't always tell you exactly how they feel because they're afraid of offending you, even when the feeling isn't offensive.

That's about the only thing wrong with Japan. I sure do lurv Tokyo. Big city without the horrible big city lifestyle or assholes that a place like NYC has.
