africa, so you become nice and disillusioned with the culture there and are less inclined to help them in the future. My uncles girlfriend went to the Ivory Coast. the peace corps house was dilapidated and sucky, so she remodeled it to make it livable. as soon as she left, the mayor took it over because it was nicer than his house. the people don't do jack shit. the peace corps was supposed to teach them how to do things for proper sanitation like dig latrines and learn ecologically sound agriculture so they don't fuck up their environment, because there are to many people to live in the traditional manner without wrecking the ecosystem. My uncle went there to visit an was thoroughly disillusioned. then he flew out on the last plane to Heathrow before the coup. that is Africa in a nutshell.
I don't know if it is an option, but Mongolia is a great place according to my uncle (who was also in the peace corps in Nepal, and traveled through Mongolia on his way to Europe, Trans Siberian Railway and all that) Mongolia is full of honest, optimistic and hard working people who manage to survive and thrive on the steps. oddly enough, he spoke to a Mongolian woman on the train. the common language was German. he learned it in Bavaria while in an exchange sponsored by the Forest Service, and she learned it from a kraut POW who had been released from the gulags after WWII and was in the process of getting as far away from Russia as he could.
