im going to greece in the summer.
i know nothing about modern greece, just going with a study abroad program. seems like fun.
what should i expect? ill be staying in athens.

My roommate was born in Canada so this is what we did in Germany; people invariably treated us better. The first few days when we said we were Americans, we were met with polite smiles, but locals immediately switched back to speaking German and ignored us. Pretending to be Canadian earned us many more interesting conversations, although you better be up to speed on your geography- expect to talk about where you're from and be able to place nearby cities and towns.

This is sound advice. I did the same thing when I was stationed in Germany. I looked at the area around Yellowknife, and remembered stuff like, who was the Prime Minister, what party I "voted for" and whatever else I might get asked.

The only real downfall is that if you run into real Canadians they will call you out and cock-block you.
