So I'm planning a road trip this summer with some friends. It's my first adult road trip. The only other things I've ever done is to and from vacation spots with my parents.

I'm used to making long drives straight through, but we want to do some touristy things along the way, stop at some tourist traps and such, and I was wondering about how many days I should budget.

From Point A to Point B, its about 900 miles, about 14 hours by Google's estimation. We wanted to spend a couple of days there, once arrived, then drive back along a different route, kind of a circle. The route back is about the same distance and time.

To take our time, and meander about, should I budget two days or three per leg of the trip? I, personally, would like to do it in two, but am worried that we won't have enough time to make stops along the way, and spend some time here and there.

Is it possible to drive 7 hours a day, and still have fun doing touristy things along the way?

Well, I actually just went on a sort of the same kind of trip through Europe... on a bus with exchange students, but anyway... we did a lot of driving and still had a day or two to see stuff at each spot. it isn't too hard to get some touristy stuff in, if you manage time right. i'd say 2 days at each leg would work well enough
