/trv/,

I want to be an American one day. I want to live in the land of the strong, the brave and the free. The land of opportunity. It's time for a change.

How does a 20-something white male with enough cash to get there and set up base go about becoming the richest, happiest American there ever was?

P.S. I'll need a job when I get there first, I have very few relevant skills so I am open to pretty much well anything.

As a fellow Amerifag, stop making us look bad, asshole. Thanks for voting for Bush, now I'm unemployed and broke. Of course I could just join the army and die in Iraq so Dick Cheney can get rich. If the rest of the world is pissed at us, they have every reason to be.

And if the fail'd Bush policies continue to the next administration, you can bet I'll be trying to immigrate to Canada. If that doesn't work, I'll float across Lake Erie to Canada in a makeshift raft like a Cuban refugee trying to get to Florida.

"> the land of the strong, the brave and the free"

When I was growing up, America really was the land of the free, land of opportunity. We used to be the greatest country in the world, a real leader. George W. Bush and people like the OP who support him have ruined all that.

TLDR: Obvious troll is example of why America is losing (has lost) our superpower status. Go fuck yourself, you dumb redneck.

If your British its easy. Get a job first and ask your employer to help you get a visa. Then go to an immigration place and apply for one. If you're here legally and working its no problem. Mexicans and other shitty people have a hard time getting them because they have no respect for laws and live here illegally and they never have steady jobs because they drink too much tequila.

No I am not fucking joking - 10-15 fucking years is how long it takes. Plus you have to live here for 5 years before you can even apply. Not that anyone in decent countries like Western Europe, Canada, et al should bother right now. Maybe in a few years time when and if a decent leader is elected, but faggots like the OP will continue to screw that up.

Not a troll, I live in Australia. I worded the original post that way as to get everyone's attention. Somehow I didn't think something along the lines of "sup, how do I get into America easily?" would have gotten as many replies.

Whether you think I'm a troll or not you've provided me with valuable information and opinions.

The former, most probably. I did business at college, and it's no secret where the biggest, richest companies in the world are. That's mainly what I meant by opportunity: if you give it a go you can go beyond your wildest dreams. Do the same shit in New Zealand, for example, and you've captured a market of a few million making a few million a year. In the USA? So much money floating about plus 100 times more people... I'm sure you are getting the idea.

Wait until someone other than Bush is in charge. The immigration department is shit to say the least. It does take as long as these guys say to become a citizen. It should be easier to get a work visa (if you have skills that someone wants), but you'll need to live here for 5 years before applying to be a citizen anyway so Bush will (we hope lol) not be around anymore.

You do not want to come here, believe me buddy, I do not want to live here!

As a US citizen with psycho Christians at the helm of this hell bus, let me assure the rest of the world who can understand the English language of something:

1) One day, the world is going to get sick of the bullshit antics of the US and nuke it.

2) I can assure you, people outside the US are missing NOTHING by never visiting here. We have no culture, no common values, no anything. All that is here is large mega-corporations and mega-churches running everything. If you think Islam is scary, you have never been inside a southern baptist church. They'll teach you fear there.

3) Now the dollar is getting cheaper everyday, so getting a cheap vacation is possible, but ask yourself, is getting anal probes at the airport worth it? Not to mention detailing your sexual adventures to some schmuck (TSA worker) who makes $7.00/hour and let them make the call if you can enter the US? Best case is you come to San Francisco and might be in good company, worse case you go to Houston and some 70-year-old grandmother/TSA worker who also teaches Sunday school gets your ass sent to gitmo in cuba for lessons in torture and answering question you do not know the answers to.
>> Anonymous
>>21623
4) As before, there is nothing here worth seeing. The cities here are crap, the highways are falling apart and the people with money live in the suburbs, only the poor live in the cities and it shows. DisneyWorld and DisneyLand are decent, but I hear the European and Hong Kong versions are better.

5) As for you illegal aliens wanting to come here. GO FOR IT! Come here and send you money back home. Go ahead and use the US as long as they allow it, because something is telling me it is not going to last much longer. Republicans and corporations love cheap labor and the dollar still has some purchasing power over the peso. I can respect the fact the Mexican economy is in the toilet and you people just want to get something out of the existential dread complex unfortunately called life. I am trying to do the same here. Unfortunately, the republicans want what Mexico is now, 1% rich, 99% slaves.

And finally, yes, I am an American citizen and I can tell you it sucks here. Most people live paycheck-to-paycheck, no one but the rich get ahead, and less than 30% of the US population holds a passport and only 2/3rd of them have ever been outside the US. We a nice xenophobic folk over here on our side of the pond. Soon the rapture will swoop America away to heaven while the rest of world is judged by god...NOT.

I personally am saving up to move myself and my family the hell out of here before the world gets tired of this hole and takes us out.

Take this for what is worth...

Have you ever been outside of the US? Because I'm getting the feeling you haven't. Airport security isn't anal probes, tourists should have no problem visiting. America is full of culture (depending on where you go), it's one of the best places to go to eat because so many cultures are represented, and the food is cheap. Each city has it's own strengths, and you can take a trip across America and see all sorts of interesting and different geological formations, climates, vegetation, etc. There is plenty worth seeing in America, I assure you. A lot of Americans wish they could travel abroad but with the dollar as it is, this is becoming very difficult.

Pretty much, I disagree with nearly every word you have written. That is about the long and short of it.

In the county I grew up in there were six factories. Each one employed 200~500 people, almost 2/3 of the population. Today there are NO factories, every single one of them was shipped off to China, Mexico, or other third world destination.
These were not overblown jobs like a guy at GM who gets 50 bucks an hour to push a button all day, but they were jobs that paid a range of 2-3x minimum wage, they provided basic health care.
Now my home town and the surrounding towns are dried up, there are no jobs aside from minimum wage (retail, food service). Crime, homelessness, and drug use have gone through the roof.
If the US government actively leveled the playing field between imports and domestic products, people could have kept the jobs that allowed them to afford health insurance, or to save more money for retirement (remember retirement plans?).
I don't think we should all be driving expensive cars and living in mansions. But people need to be able to afford health insurance, to provide for a family in case their spouse dies or becomes unable to work. There will always be those who live beyond their means, but in many places there are hardly even "means" to live on.

1x minimum wage is too much to screw a razor into a blender, fuck you, your parents should've went to college so they had actual skills worth paying for.

Sorry times change and technology advances, the purpose of government isn't to hold us in the past so a few hicks can get overpaid for their menial jobs.
>> Anonymous
>>22557
Bingo. Go to college, get at least a B.A., and stop expecting the gubmint to keep you on the dole.
>> Anonymous
>>22557
The old excuse that the lower class should just go to college is a farce. There are not even nearly enough positions to give to everyone even if they all had a masters degree in a useful field. Further, many do not have the monetary resources for higher education in the first place.
My father, btw, did not hold a factory job. High school math teacher. But that doesn't make the impact of loosing good jobs to slave wages any less to the community I grew up in. Poverty and joblessness bring along increased crime and drug use. Nice communities turn into slums.
You can brush off the loss of the US manufacturing industry as "a few hicks" but nationwide it adds up to several million people who are now pretty much jobless or working at kmart.
Technology progresses, but those old jobs aren't outdated, just outsourced. As more and more high tech jobs are lost to comparatively cheap overseas labor, aren't we just shooting right foot after shooting the left? You do realize many companies are PAYING for foreign engineers' education in the US so they can have their labor cheap when they return home?
It isn't about having super high paying jobs, it's about being able to pay for medical insurance and save for retirement. Basic living needs in a modern society, which a significant portion of the country is unable to meet. If we are unwilling to alter business to make those available, than maybe they should be made such by other means.
>> Anonymous
>>22557
Technological advancement isn't even part of the equation. The skill it takes to put a razor in a blend isn't either. It is a question of moving part of the population to a lower income bracket and the effects of doing so.
It only makes sense that sooner or later, manufacture will become of ever increasing quality and sophistication. This will lead to the loss of jobs in even more areas.
Japan and Korea were once cheap labor. Now Japan has lost much of their better paying jobs to taiwan and china. Korea will eventually follow this trend as the government allows imported products in with less and less tax and restriction.
This is not a problem of the USA, but of the modern society world wide. Unwillingness to monitor the use and effect of third world labor costs is going to become a more important issue in the years to come.
>> Anonymous
>>22581

Your viewpoint is nothing but a farce.

1. Any poor person who isn't retarded and applies themselves in high school can get a free ride to a decent state school.

2. Highly educated people are the ones who make jobs, they discover new technologies and start new businesses, the more we have the better

3. You're no better than anyone else because you mom got knocked up in this country. If and Indian is smarter than you and works harder he should get a better job, and if a Mexican is willing to do what you do for a tenth the pay there's no reason for you to have that job. Indian geniuses shouldn't be forced to stay in a rice field their whole lives while you enjoy a bloated over payed job

4. Your community sucks because its dead, move out if there's nothing there. Mines dry up and anyone who wants work moves out leaving the drunks and drug addicts. My city (New York) has been booming for the past 20 years, a ton of new skyscrapers are going up and there's a shit load of condos going up in my neighborhood, try moving here rather than staying in Michigan or Ohio.

5. There's nothing wrong with working in K-mart, industrial labor is hard, dangerous and unpleasant and usually has poor pay. You only miss it because its romanticized in the media. You rarely see polluted towns where everyone dies at 65 from black lung.

6. Yes I think there should be universal health care and social security, and seeing how both democratic candidates agree it probably won't be long until we get the health care.

7. We can outsource now because of technological advancements such as the internet, it made the world smaller and we can't undo it.

No one cares about your shitty little sob story, carriage makers and horse salesmen lost their jobs when the car was made. And starving Mexicans now have jobs and can eat meat once a week. Sorry hick alcoholics didn't get the memo that things change.

Go to the USA first although, check it out. A masters or marriage will give you an instant green card.

OP, you have basically three choices here:

Student Visa - Apply to a school here and get a job through the school. You'll geta work Visa, but you'll be stuck at that company till you are a US citizen.

Job Visa - Same as above basically. Find a company who needs positions filled. I believe it's called the HB1 Visa I believe.

Diversity Visa - This is basically a lottery. There are 50000 openings and they give them out to everyone in the world. Generally, the European, Austrailian onces aren't too competive so there is a higher chance of success than most other people.

Then you have two other choices, though I doubt you'll do.

Asylum - Say your home country is oppressing you. Though I am not sure what Australia could be doing.

Illegally Immigrate - Hell, if 12 million people did it, why can't you?

I would reccomend traveling to the US first to get a feel of the country. The US is pretty diverse place and not all things are equal. The West and Northeast or nice, but very expensive. The Midwest is where all of the factories used to be. The South is boring as hell, but that is where all of the jobs are. Cheap to live too.

Here is the website:

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis

Note, if you manage to make it in, under no circumstance commit a crime. This is a quick one way exit out the door with no chance of returning. Traffic tickets are not included in this.

Also, I admire your spirit, my family has gone from poverty to of mild success. I know friends who have immigrated here with nothing and left owning businesses and a ton of wealth. However, if you expect this to be fairly easy to do, it's not. You have to work hard. Harder than those who want the same thing. You'll get disappointed, but working hard is at least a very good path to success.
