Have money and/or in demand job skill?
>> ??????????????????????
1. Good degree
2. Start up money
3. Get a job in the country you want to move to before moving.
4. Before doing anything, research.

Ive been thinking of doing something like this for awhile just up and leaving with out telling anybody but in reality don't think i have enough money/skills to pull it off though but day dreaming about it gets me through the day

I did this last year so...

1) Do about 3-4 months of reading on any places that interest you. Pay special attention to things like immigration and naturalization laws and tax laws.
2) Get to know some people from there, either IRL or online before you go and get their perspective on the place. Beware that some expats can be very shady.
3) As previously stated, have some cash to coast on if you don't already have a job lined up or don't have a marketable skill.

You don't say near enough to make me think you are serious, but if someone reading this is, it isn't difficult to go for a masters degree in a different country. I'm currently an American living in Sweden going for my masters degree. Get to live in a different country for 2 year, free tuition (for the time being), and English will get you everywhere.

PS. You must have a useful degree (like engineering)

I'm actually thinking about doing the same thing at the University of Helsinki in 3-4 years. Recovering my Italian citizenship now from my great-grandfather, so I think that will make things a bit easier with EU citizenship.

The main difference between EU citizenship and not is that without it, you have to apply for a residence permit before you can go there (if you are an EU citizen you can go, then apply). If they say it takes 6-8 weeks to get your residence permit, don't believe them. It took over 10 weeks for me to get mine, cutting my time pretty short.

Only thing is, not many Swedes in the program. It's still a fun thing to do while you can.

Right, and I've already done the residency thing in one country. I don't really feel like doing it again if I don't have to. Did you have to drop $10k in a Swedish bank account as security that you wouldn't go on their social system? Two years isn't bad for a free master's degree and living in a new climate. Classes in English too.

Plus free healthcare and all the social services that are available for Finnish citizens.

actually they want to make sure you have enough for the full 2 years which is around 30K USD. but it just has to be in a bank account in your name, not a swedish one.

/r/ new thread about traveling to Scandinavia for master's degree

is an economics degree from the best economics school(arguably) considered useful?

I think we've said too much for that now. Not a lot more to say. Just make sure you are ahead of schedule in getting your documents ready.

I'm not sure how the other nordic countries work, but in Sweden, you fill out one application and can apply to up to 8 programs. Each program will have different requirements (recommendation letters, motivation letters, etc.). Make sure you get all the correct stuff in. Only way to make sure is to read the schools website carefully.

Go away troll, this is a forum about travel not college majors or dick waving. But if you didn't major in something like engineering or business, you will have to check which language the masters program is offered in.

University of Helsinki is the same way for applying to multiple programs at once. How long did it take you to get your documents ready and get accepted? I have a math degree, by the way.

I generally recommend against this. Unless you live in the US or some dubious European country (eg Moldova or some crappy country like that.. no offense intended, it is true) and moving would provide more opportunities than obstacles.
