If you can get down to Union Station, you'll be set. The entire downtown area is all connected by an underground path, so even if the weather is ass, you'll be able to explore to your hearts content. From there you can check out the CN Tower, Sky Dome, The Eaton Center, and all sorts of other nifty places, as well as be connected to just about every bus and subway in the city.
The airport strip itself is pretty amusing. It's where the best anime con in Toronto is held so I'm there for at least four days a year. Nothing stellar, and I guess it would suck if you can't hang out in a hotel and enjoy the pool and whatnot, but theres enough places to grab some food. I warn you though, the restaurant that's connected to the Travelodge over there will give you epic shits for a day or so. Chinatown is pretty cool too, since you can find damn near anything there. I'm not sure if they're easy to find in other places, but the paper tanks with the firecrackers that they sell from time to time there are pretty cool.
