Going to the USA. What's the do's/don't @ customs?
I heard you can't bring meat and large amounts of money (more than 5000?).

tl;dr: Average white male going on a 2 week vacation to the states, I want to pass all the shit tests and don't want to be stuck at an airport or having to go back.
>> Anonymous
Oh and, it's my first vacation ever without parents. lol. Going alone, without noobs
>> Anonymous
Don't smile, don't joke around, maybe even think about avoiding eye contact.
Maybe it was because 9/11 was still fresh, but I narrowly avoided a full cavity search for trying to share some casual talk with a bulldyke customs officer.

>>51010

What he said.

Seriously, the US is fucking crazy when it comes to their customs. Self-important bastards.

The country itself is great, though. The actual people were really awesome, at least the ones I met when I went there. Shame anyone in any kind of official capacity is on auto-dick mode.

If you are going to a beach please wear board shorts us Americans hate guys that wear speedos.
>> Anonymous
it all really depends on which part of the country your going to, in some parts of the south and midwest you've got to really walk on eggshells around the locals but if you go to a cool town it should be pretty laid back,

>AVOID FLORIDA AND NEW JERSEY, THEY ARE SCUM.
>> Anonymous
Don't be foreign. And for the love of god don't be from a country that is even vaguely middle eastern.
>> Anonymous
Walk around with a Double Cheese burger in your hand, the Americans will automatically think you're one of their own.
>> Anonymous
Just don't talk about politics, also, it's best to stay out of the south or rural areas all together.

Some fucking asshole in New York confiscated my moms nail files (the disposable cardboard ones) when going through the security checks to get the ferry to Liberty Island

Apparently they were a "potential weapon"

Brainless scum

you can bring as much money as you want. you just have to declare the amount if it's over 10k or they will take all of it. don't bring meat or plants you fool.

I am from New Jersey and I have family in Florida that I have visited on more than one occason. I wholeheartedly agree with this statement.
>> Anonymous
They dont check shit on your computer, they just scan your laptop bag. You have nothing to worry about, only about viewing that shit at the airport & someone reporting your ass.

NJFag here. This is 100% true.

I went to Seattle once with a Eurofag friend of mine and the people there were totally awesome to both of us. Don't go to New York unless you're prepared to deal with millions of assholes, though.
>> Anonymous
>>51008
If you eat out at restaurants, they actually expect you to leave small amounts of money (usually 5-15% of the bill) behind after you pay for your check. It's called tipping. I know it sounds crazy, but I'm not trolling.

Don't be a nigger, mexican, towelhead or any other type of foriegner... this includes any foreign country, besides the USA.

just do that and you'll be fine
>> Anonymous
Okay, everyone in this thread is a faggot.

You're white, so you're already ahead of the game. Just smile and be polite. Don't say anything to air port staff unless they ask you. If you're going to any city unless you're going with people who are familiar with the areas, stay to touristy areas at night. During the day as long as you aren't a dumb shit and walk around nigger neighborhoods you should be fine.

You may know English, but you probably don't know American English. When you're talking in America, you have to be alot more assertive than most people are used to, especially in urban areas. Generally though if you speak up and you're polite then you oughta do great.

If people ask you about where you're from, just tell them and chat about it. No ones going to give you shit because 99% of people won't give a fuck and are just making conversation. If anyone gives you problems then don't be a pussy, just ignore them and keep on doing what you're doing. Some people may actually be interested in where you've come from though, so if they seem receptive then go ahead and chat away. People like hearing about places they've never been.

Oh, and if people say dumb stuff about whatever faggot country you're from, don't sweat it. Just politely correct them because generally they aren't trying to be assholes, they just don't know any better.

But anyway, I hope you have a great time here and that you enjoy yourself. I hope you like my country as much as I do.

You should be fine. Definitely have to agree with the cavity search poster though: Don't talk to airport security unless you have to. Just smile and be polite, but don't make conversation. Airport security are some of our dumbest citizens.

Otherwise, I have to agree with 51066. If you're in a big city, stick to touristy areas. Lots of locals go there (like Union Square in San Fran). Where in the US are you visiting??

Stay the fuck away from Texas unless you're going to Austin.
>> Anonymous
>>51008
Where are you from and where are you going?

For customs, don't try to bring in any liquid (water bottles, soda, etc). Better off not packing any food period, they'll search it and think you're poisoning the country. At customs just relax and be polite.

California is the best, come down to Southern Cali and you'll have a hell of a time.

Jersey is an overpopulated, polluted shithole. You can't see a clear sky at night anywhere in the state, and some parts especially up by the NYC/NJ border that smell like someone took a dump on a dead lobster and let it sit for days.

Austin is for potheads who want to think they are doing something to change the world. Visit the rest of Texas if you want to see some real Americans or oil.

For those thing NYC would be pretty good if you can tolerate a lot of rude, pushy people. Asheville, North Carolina also has beautiful mountains and it's an awesome town. It also has one of America's largest castles, The Biltmore Estate.
>> Anonymous
>>51187

San Fransisco might be pretty good. Might be light on architecture though. NYC is good as well.

>>51187

New York. Don't listen to anon above. We're not rude, nor are we pushy. We're just impatient and have no problem pushing slow witted, lag about tourists out of our way.

Keep your wits about you and you'll be fine here.

Austin sucks. I wouldn't go to Texas, it's not that special.. I know, I'm from there. I looks just like anywhere else in the midwest. It has some decent beaches near the boarder, thats about it. If you are looking for a place to relax, consider rocky mountain national park. Estes Park to be exact. Beautiful scenery and wild life. They do very well with foreigners too since lots of the people who work in the shops and restaurants are from Europe. Collage students that come to work there during breaks, I really haven't figured out why though. As for the rest of the country and how to act... just be friendly, and they will be friendly too. Usually. I really don't see why you would have any problems.

Stay out of California. NYC is the right answer for everything.
People not from here are either gonna love it or hate it
And the people that love are the ones lucky enough to enjoy it
And the people that hate are the ones that would love if they hadn't been born elsewhere.
NYC = correct.

clearly someone had a bad experience in LA...

as someone living in LA though, there are better places in CA to visit. San Diego is all around awesome (stay near Pac Beach or Del-Mar..any beach really), and San Fran is pretty decent too. San Diego seems to be younger on the bar scene tho.

LA is really superficial. cool bars and hot women, but they're actually kinda lame (unless you have good game and lots of money lol)
>> Anonymous
>>51622
It's alright, California doesn't love you either. Go with God, child.
>> Anonymous
>>51622
These days California is filled with smoke. It is so thick that you don't even notice the smog. Pretty awesome at night though because moon turns blood red as it is setting...
>> Anonymous

That mainly applies to LA.

>>51452

Srsly, tho... Chicago really is awesome.

We have a LOT of stuff to do. Pretty much anyone could find something interesting here. While there are the NYC comparisons, I'd say that what makes Chicago better (to me) is that it's way more laid back/down to earth.

You didn't really describe yourself so I'm not sure what you like...

But basically even the touristy stuff is cool. We have neat museums and if you're into history, gangsters, or ghosts (all of which we have a lot of cool stories for), we have tours for that too (Untouchables Tour, Ghost Tour, etc).

And obviously we have some damn amazing food.

Plus Chicago has a LOT of cool neighborhoods.

I wanted to goto Chicago when I was little.

Every single person I've ever met from Chicago (airline stewardesses, students, just people from there) have all been MASSIVE DOUCHEBAGS and I just lost all interest in ever going there. I don't even like flying out of the airport because I get stewardesses from the area who are just complete bitches.

Come to Vegas. Give us your money.Go about three hours outside the city for brothels. Gun ranges are everywhere and will allow you to fire every gun known to man. take water wherever you go, especially this time of year. Don't get drunk and wander off of the strip, you WILL be mugged, as long as your around a large number of other people your ok. There is no subway, the ground is solid bed rock here for the most part and the monorail doesn't actually go anywhere so be prepared to walk/take cab for long distances. In midday in summer, you could die of heatstroke within one hour if your out of shape or die of hypothermia out in the open desert at night, yes, it is like mars here.

Come to Vegas, were nobody know's how to use the roundabouts.

As a local and born native of Vegas, I encourage you to give us your money. You will have fun doing it which is what makes this a unique place.
