I recently accepted a position with a company where I drive around the United States (some Canada and Puerto Rico too) in a vehicle outfitted with tons of antennas and electronic gear. I drive a route trying to determine the strengths and weaknesses of cellular signals (where calls are dropped, etc) so carriers can decide how to make their networks better.

The vehicle is a company vehicle (pic related) the gas is company paid, I get 35 bucks a day for food, they set me up with hotel reservations everynight, and I make very decent money just to drive around and collect data with no out of pocket expenses I know of so far. They will also occasionally pay for me to fly home for a weekend.

The thing is, I'll be living out of hotels for weeks/months at a time. It seems like alot of fun since I'm young and want to see things and like to drive, but I have a bad feeling that the job will get very boring eventually. Tell me /trv/, what can I do to keep myself from getting terribly bored? I only work 6-10 hours a day and the rest is spent in some random city in a hotel. I would love to bring my laptop and online game and browse 4chan, but I dont know if hotel connectivity is typically fast enough for this.

What are your experiences with hotel internet speeds, what can I do/bring to keep from being bored so often, and have any of you ever taken a position like this? Does anyone have any tips or suggestions?

I guess it's probably alot like what a truck driver goes through but I don't know any to ask.

Books, offline games (on laptop or portables), music?

Or you could always just read stuff on Wikisource.

Honestly, i'd just walk around, explore the place, see what's around, and if there's people worth shagging.

>What are your experiences with hotel internet speeds
Usually, hotels will have some shitball wireless system that's slow as fuck. I only saw one that was wired with actual ethernet ports in the wall, but those dropped from use in favor of aforementioned shitball wireless connection.

>What can I do/bring to keep from being bored
Only stupid people get bored. There's too much to do in life to be bored.

>Have any of you ever taken a position like this?
Not me.

If you are worried about the ability to get internet just grab an air card. Pretty decent internet surfing where there is 3g :)
