Shanghai Anonymous
So, I'm going to be in Shanghai for 3 days on my own in a couple of weeks. I'll then be meeting up with friends for the rest of my holiday but I'm looking for fun stuff to do in the interim.

I want to walk around the city and try my hand at some street photography (amateur photofag) so I'm looking for suggestions of interesting places to go, local markets and the like.

Any suggestions /trv/?

If it's anything like Guangzhou, you should try taking pictures of the people who take pictures of you

Heh, Shanghai is probably (apart from Hong Kong anyway) the most "western" city in China. I'm not expecting to be a celebrity because I'm white. Should I be..?

I've seen some Shanghailanders glance at Westerners who can speak chinese, and openly gasp at those who can speak their shitty dialect.

Shitty dialect? GTFO Northerner.

Yes, anywhere in China you are a celebrity for being white. Also me prepared to wade through the Joseph Stalin style human waves of merchants.

Hmm, ok, guess I'd better expect to get a little more attention than I thought.

So, does anyone have any suggestions of interesting places to go? Where would you go if you wanted to take a photo to sum up Shanghai?

The Shanghai Acrobat show is a must see. Shit's insane.

There's this house called Yuyuan Garden and it's really nice!

May as well see the Oriental Pearl Tower too. It looks really badass and ominous when you get up close.

Thanks for the tips, I've been reading about the Yuyuan garden and that's already on my list of places to go.

If you know Shanghai, could you tell me: are there any big food markets and if so where are they? I figure they'll be lively and colourful for photos.
