depending on where you practice architecture usually determines what kind of business you do in architecture (in NY, alot of refurb/gutting & refitting), in addition to what type of grouping your firm falls under (einstein, efficiency expert, etc.).
additionally, the modern architecture movement started sometime in the 60s or 70s, iirc. and gehry designs all sorts of crap because he is really far better at publicity than anything else. really, if you watch the documentary about him directed by pollock, you'd notice his design aides do the majority of the real design work. alot of architects do design work not solely related to buildings. some even go so far as to design furniture and patterns for carpeting/wallpaper.
and from one architecture major student to another, the pay sucks. the lowest paying of the three main licensed professions (doctor, lawyer, architect).
