I have long since decided to go for the life of a vagabond, sacrificing the general comforts associated with having a home and instead seek adventure. The plans are still in the making, and one important question still bothers me: Where the hell am I going to sleep? I don't mind sleeping under a starlit sky, but it seems a bit dangerous (not even the police cares about what happens to hobos, right?). So I could use some better options than that. Tenting sounds excellent, but from my understanding, it's illegal unless the owner of the exact space you're using agrees on it. Hostels will probably be too expensive in the long run (I plan to get some more money eventually, but for now, every dime out of my pocket leads me closer to famine). And lastly, I don't want to risk trouble with the police for squatting.

Do I have any options left?

Enjoy getting robbed and raped by homeless crackheads.

Seriously, this is dumb.

What happens happens. Would still appreciate some suggestions on how to avoid it (staying home doesn't count).

loot and plunder their civilisations.

That would suit me well. Too bad I've already ruled everything that could get me in trouble with the law.

There are lots of options, actually.
Couchsurfing.com
hitchhikers.org
wikitravel.org
And many others....

Im intending to knock off in Europe/AU starting in May using all those websites...very exciting!
You will need some cash tho, if you intend to hit the EU. Best place to be to save some cash is Eastern Europe-- Czech, Hungary, Croatia, etc. Croatia is supposed to have the most beautiful women in the world, and with little American tourism, you'll be something of a novelty.

This is something I've dreamed of doing, just slinging on a backpack start walking, but one thing bothers me, how do you fund yourself through this sort of thing?

Backpacking is good for awhile. I saved off and took off for a year and went across Europe and Asia, living in shitty guesthouses while traveling.

After awhile you just want to settle down though, and you run out of money.

You do see awesome places and meet interesting people. Which I wouldn't give up, ever.

Sleep indoors, in safe places in urban areas, camp in places where it's safe. Travelling is awesome, being homeless is shit.

Go somewhere like Laos or Cambodia, you can live on amost nothing and teach English with no qualifications if you need money. Laos is pretty safe, Cambo is OK if you're not too dumb.

Basically, don't over romanticise this. Travelling can be pretty hard, especially on a super low budget. A starlit sky is all well and good, but a lot of the time it rains or its freezing cold. You will need money to survive, I suggest some bartending experience will be useful, and if you go overseas (much better value for money) a TESL course will pay off big time.

That first link seems awesome, the second might be helpful, but I don't see how the third one would help for this exact purpose.

How about squatting? Though, there are ones probably only in larger cities but i think at least some have some sort of accomodation

Killing monsters and selling any items you find, obviously.

Squats can be pretty nasty... you're basically talking about a house full of homeless people, maybe with no electricity or running water. How do you think that smells? Squats in the Netherlands are awesome but the ones I've been in elsewhere are not so great.

Does this actually work? I mean for people who just want to go somewhere and do their own thing, not for those who use it for socializing and finding fuck buddies.

Nordic nations, including the UK to a lesser extent have right to roam laws. You can travel both public and private land and camp in most places. Although to be fair these countrys are where you would most like sleep in a hotel/hostle. When in other countrys always carry enough for a few night in a hotel about your persons, you never know when you will get sick or get moved on by police.

Pay a Korean to do it for you.

i am also interesting in doing this sort of thing, maybe this summer gonna do it with a friend. i would rather do it in the country than the city though, as the country seems a lot safer to be sleeping rough. read crimethinc's "evasion" which is a collection of stories of people doing the same thing

Look OP, although I understand your feelings, if you want to do something like that you better do some planning first, and leave with some decent funds. From what I gathered you want to do this for life? If so, that's just idiotic. If it's for a period of time, it'll be an adventure, without a doubt, you still should take precautions and there is no way living a homeless life will be simple or easy and definitly NOT safe. I think you're being too extreme. How old are you anyway?
