Opinions on South Korea, /trv/? Specifically Seoul and that whole, like, general western edge/chunk. Various circumstances have afforded me the chance to live there for awhile nearby a couple of friends (btw i'm a boring ol' white american guy in his early 20s if that makes a difference)

If you have the option of also taking up Korean language classes, it may be worth your time. South Korea isn't a bad place to be, but it really depends on the person.

If you're going to be over there for any length of time, get a Korean girlfriend. It's also the best way to learn Korean (actual advice from Koreans I've met).

This thread is relevant to my interests as I might end up there as well (military spouse).

The language seems extremely easy to learn compared to other Asian ones. Japanese, I'm looking at you. So at least that wouldn't be a huge deal, right?

I'm a European learning both languages. Korean is easier because of the lack of Chinese characters, but harder because of the lack of it. :)

In Japanese you can understand words you don't know through their kanji if you know them, in Korean this is much harder to do because you only have the pronunciation to go by.

The grammar is pretty similar between the two. In any case, start learning the language right now. Getting a decent everyday proficiency takes time.

I don't understand the Koreans. Not at all. Interesting but not for me.
