is taiwan a good place to go to?

pic unrelated
>> Anonymous
Taiwan? I think you mean China
>> Anonymous
Taiwan =/= China

China -> People's Republic of China
Taiwan -> Republic of China

China still doesn't have a fully democratic government, but Taiwan does.

Taiwan is actually a great place to travel to; it will probably be pretty similar to Japan experience-wise. (there are huge department stores and unique shopping districts similar to Shijiku and Ginza, there are numerous temples and historic buildings, and a lot of local amusement parks filled with excitement.

Good times.

Not to mention the delicious food...

OP here:
ok so taiwan is a good choice after all thanks guys,
>> Anonymous
Pros:

Food is FUCKING AWESOME
Shit is FUCKING CHEAP
Everyone is FUCKING FRIENDLY
Scenery is FUCKING GREAT
Everyone drives a FUCKING SCOOTER

Cons:
Scooter drivers are generally FUCKING CRAZY
At pedestrian crossings nobody will actually FUCKING STOP

Seriously though, Taiwan is the best place I've ever been. Go to Taichung, the night markets there are the best. I thought they were even better than the ones in Taipei.

Plus, depending on where you are from, you don't even need to apply for a visa, they'll just give you one at the airport when you show your passport (ausfag here)

Seconded. The lookout at Taichung is fucking amazing at night. It's open 24/7 too.

I lived in Taiwan for a year as an exchange student. For long term lodgings Taipei is awsome. exploring the gorges and mountains of hulien is highly recommended

the people are the most polite ive ever met, however politeness dosnt extend to friendliness very often. so you know what im talking about, Australia is a perfect comparison. manners and etiquette are non-existant there, and people can ften be downright blunt and rude. however you will never meet a friendlier bunch

food is good if you are daring

taichung does have the best night markets

the mountains north of taipei are less traveled but much more majestic than those freqented by tourists in the central area

really the only comparison to mainland china is in the language. other than that taiwan is much more like japan in its comercialisation and much more like singapore in its open embracment of western culture

protip: for a real weekend experience, travel to an aboriginal community and stay there for a weekend

i think it is, it look fun

Taiwan is the most fucking boring place on earth. And this is from a HK fag.

Been to the Chinese Taipei once - I won't return.

But the taiwanese also have there own language, my taiwanese friend temporarily living here in australia speaks both mandarin and taiwanese (not sure the official name of it) she tells me her family doesnt like when she talks mandarin at home as they do not consider themselves to be chinese. I dont know if the majority of the population is like this.

Taiwan is awesome. You won't be disappointed.

They're split on the issue, and it largely depends on what their roots are. Chinese who fled the mainland after the Communists won the civil war tend to be pro reunification (eventually), and the people and their families who have lived in Taiwan for generations tend to be pro Taiwan independence.

China has tried to appeal to Taiwan saying that they could become a Special Administrative Region and still keep their government and laws, similar to Hong Kong, but I don't see the status quo changing anytime soon.

Given what China did to Hong Kong i can understand how the proposal is not that appealing.

What did China do to Hong Kong?
>> We Are Anonymous
strange, just been there 2 months ago for the summer from Hong Kong

horrible

it feels like mainland china and the tour consisted of 2 hour long drives from bus to a touristy place for 10 mins

bump what did they do? i heard they added import tax which made hk a shitty place to shop (it used to be awsome apparently)
>> Anonymous
>>64921

They didn't do anything. Guy is just bitching about nothing.

Despite being part of China, Hong Kong still has self governing autonomy, so any import tax or anything else they added would have been done on their own volition.
>> Anonymous
>>64921
They flooded the place with communist chinks, fucked up their economy, and destoryed what little biritsh charm they had remaining

Any Hong Kong resident in their right mind hates China.

>>self governing autonomy
ahahahaa

You think china give a shit about laws or following them? shill a little harder, chink

This guy's a fucking tool. You think anybody gives a fuck about shitty british charm, least of all in a CHINESE city??

so are there many of these barber shops in taiwan and if I get caught in one will I get arrested.

>>64952

You're so fucking dumb. Hong Kong has ALWAYS had lots of immigrants from China (gee, how did the people in Hong Kong even get there in the first place?). Explain to me how they "fucked up their economy"? Last time I checked, the Hong Kong economy is just fine and still growing at a good pace.

And yes, China IS following the agreement not to mess with Hong Kong's laws until 2048. I'd like to see you back up even one statement you made.

There was also a report that the PRC had violated Hong Kong's autonomy on dozens of occasions.
