Go see a game, we have every sport imaginable and we suck at all of them.

Also, go to Millenium park and stare at the gigantic bean. Oh, and visit some museums.

I'm gonna hijack this thread for a moment here:
Who thinks Chicago will get the 2016 Olympics?
From what I've heard their biggest competitor right now is Rio de Janeiro by virtue of it being the first potential South American city to host, ever. That doesn't mean that they are up to it, which could still cost them their bid.
They actually made it to the top 4 despite being worse prepared technically than a city that did not make it, Doha, Qatar. This has never happened before. It could mean that they want them to host it in spite of this. Nonetheless, an IOC official was quoted as saying that as it stands the 2016 Olympics are "theirs [Chicago's] to lose."
The reason why Madrid and Tokyo are not viable despite being best prepared is that by 2016 the Olympics will have been hosted in Europe twice in the previous 12 years, and only 4 years before if it's to be Madrid, and in Asia just 8 years earlier, while the Americas will not have hosted for 20.

I hope Chicago can do it mainly for this (among other city-wide improvements): http://www.inhabitat.com/2008/06/11/chicagos-eco-bridge/

However, I think the South American bid is very enticing for the IOC for your reasons and I think that they could get lots of international funding if they did win the bid.

it would be brazil's coming out party :( everyone's wailing on america these days it seems and this would be the most direct punch cause they'll be swiping it right from under our noses unlike china. hopefully the ioc will feel that we're in need of a boost or something.

back to the topic, OP, how much time do you have for touristy escapades, because you could waste a ton of time in Chicago just walking around downtown. Hit up Michigan Ave. which has Water Tower Place, and tons of other stores etc.
