I am not OP, but out of curiosity, would like to know also. So, currently in Florida, have a bachelor's degree in English, $6000 to my name.

Berlin. If you survive the first two weeks, your money should last you about 3 months.

Okay, but are Americans ever able to get jobs there? Even shitty ones.

note: I don't know German and I don't know how quickly I'd pick it up.

Best make damn sure to get some English speaking channels on your TV, 'cause in Germany, EVERYTHING is dubbed.

3-4 Month are enough to know stuff for work.

"Hallo, Ihre Bestellung bitte? Im Menü? Ketchup oder Mayo? Welches Getränk? Zum Mitnehmen? Danke. Schönen Tag noch"

Not to be a dick here, but you can't go half way across the world and expect to get along fine without knowing any of the language.

Germany's alright as European countries go. Learn some basic German before you go. You don't need to be fluent, just learn the main grammar points, how to properly construct your own sentences, and enough vocabulary to get by. You should be fine.

What kind of visa will you get? I love how people think they can just up and move to Europe without sorting out immigration papers. Enjoy working your shitty illegal bar job if you don't have a visa.
