Didn't read the book but the movie was soooooooooo horrible. Sean Penn is the worst.

Yeah, this film and book changed my life. I'm walking across Europe in a few months.

I own the book, but I haven't read it yet. Is it good?
>> Anonymous
It made me never want to ever go to Alaska.
Cool movie and book though

Made you cry for his family he ditched without saying a word? The guy was stupid and he paid the price in the end. That was the real message of the story, but the movie was way over-romanticized.

The guy is a fucking dumbass. He deserved what he got.

The book was romanticized, and I'm sure the movie was too. Faggot got what he deserved.

That mother fucker was stupid. My family and I lived out in the woods for years and this fucker could not even take one winter. It's his fault he died.

IF you read about the guy, he really did some amazingly stupid mistakes. Almost too stupid.

The people that investigated his death pretty much ruled it out as a sort suicide, nobody is that dumb, and its assumed to went out into the wilderness to die alone.

Thats why he burned all his money, abandoned his car in the desert (which was still 100% functional when it dried out) and ditched his family. He wasn't doing some wacky hippie rebellion thing, he just wanted to kill himself.

If you read about him, the biggest mistake he made was not taking a map, which frustrates the hell out of me, but it fits with his character. He wanted to be somewhere that was uncharted and totally undiscovered, but he was intelligent enough to realize that no such place exists anymore. So he just didn't bring a map.
Beyond that the only real mistakes he made were eating the wrong berries-a mistake that I would expect most people to make- and butchering the moose incorrectly. The reason that he butchered the moose incorrectly was that he was taught how to butcher meat by someone who lived on the plains, not in Alaska. You have to do it differently up there.
Also, his car was not 100% functional when it dried out, the battery was completely dead, and Chris had no way to get a battery to it without having to screw up what he had going for him.
In short: you sir, are conclusively wrong.
