Is Amsterdam really that awesome? I mean I have heard good things but, is it really all that diffrent from say New York or London? I understand laws are a little more lax there but what ever they have there can be found in my state, speaking of "services".

Well, they have couple things worth seeing;

red light district
museums (heineken museum was on top of my list)
and, well, the place has generally nice architecture.

getting a prostitute in red light district or buying weed and other drugs I do not consider a tourist activity, though it may attract some.

Most of Amsterdam is just like a really nice European city, with some nice architecture, museums, canals and cafes etc. When I went, last Easter most of the streets were totally deserted, it was like walking through a ghost town, it was kinda creepy. Then there's sort of a big area with lots of scutty looking shops that sell shrooms, weed etc, and lots of sex shops etc.

Erm, my friend was there a few months ago, saying he "never thought he would ever eat a banana out of a woman's vagina". If you've got enough money I'm pretty sure you can buy whatever perversions you wish, whilst getting as high as you've ever been totally legally.

It's worth a visit for the experience I guess, but if you're not a kinky pervert drug fiend (which, on 4chan, I guess you are), I wouldn't say it's an essential city to visit; the gallery's and museums were nice, but not as stunning like you'd find somewhere like Paris or London. The canal's were pleasant, it's worth doing a tour on the canal, and the cafe's and restaurants were good; but apart from the sex and the drugs it doesn't really have anything to set it apart from other major European cities.

But if you just wanna spend a long weekend getting pleasantly stoned in a cafe with some mates, and fucking some whores, go for it!

Isn't the red light district being systematically removed or replaced with artsy chic shops. Holland is failing.
