Sup /trv/

I'm looking for a country off the beaten track to live for a while, as I need to spend a couple of months away from everything to clear my head. I'm thinking of a poor country where I can live easily, one of the red countries of this map, but it needs to be relatively safe and friendly to foreigners.

Which country would you suggest?
>> Anonymous
Thailand.

I notice there is only one dark-blue country :3

Have you considered Arkansas? It meets all your requirements - small, poor, off the beaten path.

the thing about poor countries is generally you can't live easily there. they are poor for a reason. part of that is violence and corruption. don't think of other countries as "just like the U.S. but without fast food, public transport or the internet", realistically they are nothing like you expect. plan to turn up and keep to yourself while recieving friendly nods and curious smiles from the locals, or maybe live in the style of the locals like you are one of them for a few months in happiness and understanding? get real.
>red countries
why go to another country to clear your head? i'm sure there are plenty of places you could go away to in your own country. imo just pick a country you like, let's say korea, and find a quiet area of the country. or if you really want to experience poverty for some reason check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_Human_Development_Index . prepare to possibly die. also iceland ftw.

China or Russia are your only remotely safe bets on that map.

Sorry, forgot Poland and the Baltric Counties are okay as well.

why are you using a 10 year old map..

There should be some sort of waiting period before you're allowed to post on 4chan.
>> ??????????
Having lived in some fairly poor areas, I can say that the small semi-rural towns in southern Russia are a nice bet. It's healthy (locally grown food = win), there's nice weather, there's shit to do, and there's fucking cheap vodka.
Just stay away from Chechnya, and try some towns on the coast of the Black Sea or the Sea of Azov instead.

The only problem is that you'll need to learn Russian, which you should anyway since it's awesome.

>>33267
Where have you lived, oh Al-Anonymous?
>> ??????????
>>33268

Primorsko-Akhtarsk, on the eastern coast of Azov. Apparently, there's an anon not too far away from there, in Kamyshevatskaya.

What were you doing there?

I would love to visit Chechnya, but obviously that won't be happening. Would you recommend staying away from the areas surrounding Chechnya (Daghestan, Ingushetia, North Ossetia, Kabardino-Balkaria etc.) as well?
>> ??????????
>>33272

I was born there, lol

I haven't been to Chechnya, and I keep stumbling into crazy Chechens who moved away from there. I get the impression that it's a shithole, but I don't really know much about the place.

Luxembourg is dark blue too. This info is old though, countries like norway also have higher gpd per capita than the US.

in SEA, go to the Philippines. Thailand is filled to the brim with fail, and fags who wear dreadlocks and walk mystically around trying to look like surfer/beat poets. It sucks. The Philippines has nice people, who are not all fake whores.Or, at least not fake anyway.

Why do you need to go to another country? Just go to some place like northern california, where all the hippies live.

Cape Verde is rather nice. It's an island nation, with most residents speaking Portuguese, English, or Creole.

I rather enjoyed a few brief 4 day stints on the island of Mondelo - cheap food, inexpensive housing, very pretty women.

Wow, that map must be really old.
According to wikipedia there are 7 countries with a Higher GDP Per Capita than the US.
None of which are showed on this map

>>33406
The map shows INCOME, not GDP per capita.
Jeez.

nepal, like india but not as intense, cheap as anything as well.

As long as you stay out of Chechnya you'd probably have the same chance of getting beheaded in America. I hear they're rebuilding that area pretty quickly though.
>> Anonymous
Not that I've been to any of them, but I think Mongolia and the bordering area of Tuva would be a fascinating place to live for a while. The area's a haven for inspiring traditional music, and there's got to be a lot of hidden history there.
>> Anonymous
>>33407

Of course its based on per capita retard, or else Scandanavia would be red since 10 people live there

Its from 8 years ago for one, and all the countries above the US today are too small to be seen besides Norway

Thanks for hijacking the thread with meaningless drivel nobody cares about. You are the reason /trv/ is shit.

They're also in the process of instituting a communist, likely with a heavy tinge of Maoist influence, government, which could be very interesting to see.

> Poland and the Baltric Counties are okay as well.

Don't know about baltic countries but Poland is quite expensive lately especially with strong euro and polish z?oty. I'd bet rather on Ukraine.

I'd recommend Southeast Asia, somewhere of the beaten track, cheap and nice temperature.

Indian Himalayas

Khoomei faggot detected. This is not about your gurgling obsession, this is about a good+cheap place to live at for a few months, which is something you obviously don't know anything about.
OP: I'd recommend South America or SE Asia. Vietnam is awesome.

The answer to these fucking questions is ALWAYS thailand, cambodia, or laos.

I dunno, i hear Bhutan is pretty nice place these days. they just got the internet!

I've been wanting to check out Chile myself.

Two. US and Luxembourg.

The map is biased, though. There are MUCH more than two countries with an income ratio greater than 4.0.

Also, you're a stupid American. :)

I am also looking for a country, in which you can live with 10000$ for a year.

Also the the citizen there better to speak adequate English for the better communication.

perhaps you teach english for benefit citizen of glorious nation of myanmar?

outdated map as hell on OP though.

pretty hard to pick a country, but i say Morocco, a poor police state with some of the highest rates of police men in the world compared to the amount of people.

If you`re american i advise you to say that you`re from another country.
