Hi /trv/. I want to hit Europe next spring, but i have questions

1. A friend of mine (Irish) used one of these euro rail passes to pretty much go anywhere in Europe on train without restrictions for x months. What's the equiv that Canadians such as myself can get and how limited is it?

2. What countries should i avoid? I'm starting in Ireland, after which point i'll find my way into France (bi-lingual Canadian that i am), up to Belgium, but i also want to see Croatia, so i'm thinking i could get there through southern Germany so as to avoid Italy

3. Cost? I could probably have 3-4 thousand dollars by the time i leave, but trans Atlantic tickets are hella-expensive. How will i carry and dispense money? font want to carry several thousand dollars in cash, do i :p

4. Packing. I was thinking of packing pretty light, with a GPS, Archos 605 etc. anything useful i should bring?

All I know is don't carry too much money on you. Get travellers cheques or something; I don't know where you're going, but cities in Italy, Czech Republic, Spain and some in France are notorious for pick pockets.

Good ones at that.

Go pocket-less. Keep everything under your tuque.

I can tell you from a personal experience, when you are not in one of the "big name" countries try to avoid showing any signs of affluence. Dress like the locals or you are going to get robed, at a knife point.

In croatia they love those chunky big tourist cameras, and razor thin cellphones.

If it does happen, just RUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's how I kept my camera.

You dumb piece of shit, there's no nationality restrictions on train tickets. Anyone can buy a fucking Euro Rail Pass. It doesn't mean "European people only", it just means it's a rail pass for the continent of Europe.

tl;dr get the fuck out you piece of shit

"Eurail passes can only be purchased by non-European residents. Residents of Turkey and the Commonwealth of Independent States are also ineligible to buy them"
