united or northwest? Anonymous
flying from SFO to Narita in a few weeks, cheapest flights are on united and northwest. anyone had any experience with either company and can give me an idea which airline i should chose?

Whenever I've flown Northwest (LAX->CWA) it's been awful.

who ever wins, we lose.

I usually fly United myself. They're pretty good...

If you're playing to Japan though, fly JAL. They're the best.

I would, but they're about $300-400 more for a one way ticket, and I'm on a tight budget. Any reason why it'd be really worth it?

blowjobs and sake

seriously, they're just very cosy and pleasant. nothing you should care for if youre on a tight budget

transpacific flights suck. that's all there is to it. i've done northwest and delta so far, and northwest was HORRENDOUS.

flying continental in june -- hoping it doesn't suck :(

Northwest=$5 beers.
United/ANA=free booze.

If you care about that sort of thing.

Are KLM good?

I know they should be, but I'd still rather ask you worldly folk.

They're expensive and I've only ever flown with them on a few occasions from Amsterdam to Florida, but I can't really complain.

Continental isn't bad at all. It's only mediocre There are definitely far worse experiences though. Then again, I usually take rather short distance trips.

Northwest is TERRIBLE. I only fly ANA to Japan anymore. Japanese stewardesses make the flight so much better. It's amazing what sincere customer service can accomplish.

Also, Northwest doesn't even have individual screens for each seat. They just have one projection screen for everyone, which you can't see if your not in the front row. Oh, and they have annoying middle-aged flight attendants who obviously don't like you or their jobs.

Holy shit...Planes still have these? I remember that from the 90s. Every single plane I have been on in recent years has had a screen in the back of the seat. What a shitty airline.

Continental is decent but because they're based out of Cleveland, they may you do some really ridiculous layovers. Seriously. Do I really need to take a 15 minute flight from Columbus to Cleveland to go back south and west to LA? Fucking ridiculous.

There's a reason why people call it Northworst. Go for United, OP. Atleast, if they fuck up your flight, you'll get some free miles out of it. More than you can say about American.

I was on a nine hour flight earlier this year and they didn't have the individual screens. Hawaiian Air, that's expected. But American and United? What. The. Fuck?

Oh well, Ryanair, germanwings and V-Bird (bankrupt) don't.

It's about €700 for both ways - depending on when you book and from where in Europe you start.
The only real cheaper alternatives for me are Air Italia, which always seems on the verge of going out of business, and Emirates, which has very jumpy rates.

You do know there is more to flying that "individual screens"? Don't get me wrong, they are nice. I flew LAS-BOS last week on a newly refurb'd Delta 757 with the screens and LiveTV and they were great...so much for sleeping on the red-eye. But on a trans-Pac...check out legroom & service, first and foremost.

Simply put, Northworst sucks. Their employees hate their jobs, hate their company, and it shows. United isn't nearly as bad. If you have to choose between the 2, go with United.

My view is a little skewed, though. I'm an airline employee with ties to UA and Delta. I prefer Delta internationally...thought the United service was just as good on my IAD-CDG flight a few months ago.

I mean Alitalia.

Yeah well RyanAir flights are generally only 1-2 hours long. You don't really need to watch a shitty Disney film to pass that short length of time, right? I know I don't. Those screens would only be useful on long flights to other continents.

Korean Air and Lufthansa often don't too.

...that Korean Air flight ws the worst ever.

yeees... in flight blowjobs would surely increase the demand for first class tickets

OP here. Wish I'd seen these new comments before I bought my ticket today, went with Northwest as it was a bit cheaper and most have told me its about the same as United.

Oh well, one 11 hour flight won't kill me.
