I'm moving to Texas in a few months to establish residence to go to med school there. So I have to work there for a year before I go to school.

Question is, what city should I live in for that year? Right now I'm thinking Houston cause it seems pretty modern and it's got a big medical community.

Austin.

Austin is the only cool city in Texas.
Houston is a hole.

Dallas is full of Okies and Lonestar Guidos. Avoid.

Houston is a sprawling concrete monstrosity and is nasty and humid.

San Antonio...don't have much to say about it other than its boring.

Austin is a very cool town. Great music scene, college town, etc. Good town if you're young. It's the best choice.

Just a word of warning; it is being infested with California douchebags and their faggotry.

Having lived in Texas my whole life, I must warn you. Houston is both incredibly humid and has the worst traffic in the entire state. Other than that, its a fine town. Dallas and San Antonio are good choices too. Be forewarned, if you absolutely must have a car to get around. There is very little in the way of public transportation down here. People I know from the Northeast are always suprised by that when they get down here.

I've lived in Houston for all of my life and I'd say that it's all-around okay. It does get pretty hot and humid in the summer but personally I like that type of weather, but you'll hear plenty of other sane people complain. It never snows here and the coldest it gets is around freezing point in the winter. If you don't like pollution stay away from Pasadena. Houston is pretty large in size so expect to drive around a lot since public transport here sucks and traffic is hell. The people here aren't the typical Southern stock, though you're bound to meet at least a few, and there's plenty of diversity and modernity. I don't know how Houston would compare to Austin since I have spent more than a couple of days there.

Soda, pop, and whatever else you yankees call it is pronounced "coke" in these parts. Anywhere you go in Texas you can find delicious Blue Bell Ice Cream. Yummy!

And Dr. Pepper. Wonderful, wonderful Dr. Pepper.

OP here, I'm living in Atlanta right now, so I'm fairly used to bad traffic and humidity. I'll have to look more into Austin, I visited east texas a few years back and it didnt stand out as much as houston did for me.

My parents lived in Houston, and moved to Greensboro, NC. The worst days in Greensboro were a cakewalk compared to Houston. If you live there, don't work on the East side of the city, or have to make some daily commute to the East.

As much as I hate them, UNC/Duke have great med schools with a lot less heat/humidity. Plus, more water. Lots of fags tho.

Having been born and raised in fucking San Antonio, I will tell you that it is the most boring fucking place on earth. With that said, I have spent countless weekends/weeks in Austin and Houston over the years, so...

Austin. Austin, Austin, Austin, Austin, and Austin.
