It's boring I know, but I'm in London next weekend. I haven't got much to do on the Friday. I'm trying to keep costs minimal.

Someone suggest something [realistic] I can do? Particularly in the evening. By myself.

Camden is definitly a good plan. Go to the Jazz Cafe, good music and good food, and generally a good night out.

However, you'll have to book far in advance to get a table without a restricted view.

Hahaha, fucking hell is Camden ever a shithole, everyone I know who lives there (3 friends) desperately wants to move away.

If you've got one Friday night and fancy getting some dinner and trying a few bars (you're starting on your own, but London's sometimes friendlier than it's given credit for) then I'd suggest either Soho or Brick Lane/Shoreditch. Soho has a better selection of places to eat, but Shoreditch & Brick Lane have the funkier bars.

If you don't fancy chatting to strangers (or, conversely, drinking alone) then I'd suggest a walk along the river by the Embankment and South Bank. It's cheap and you get a good view of some of the main London landmarks, plus there's always loads of people around and there are restaurants/bars along the way if you get hungry/thirsty.

Camden isn't cool or punk/indie/emo, it's a shithole. Camden stopped being interesting many decades ago.

Go see a show in one of the theaters near Piccadilly Circus, srsly.

They have some great shows there, I watched Avenue Q (pic related) and The 39 Steps and they were both awesome.

Beware of girls luring you into bars/strip clubs where you will be presented with a bill of 500 pounds and essentially robbed by the guards. It's the most common tourist trap there, read about it in WikiTravel

Yeah, Avenue Q is on in London atm I think. I'm going to see it in April when I go to London, but I think the tickets for a good seat sell out rather quickly.

Woah. Camden, New Jersey is a shithole, too. I guess it's a shitty name.

OP here.

I'm going to Camden in the afternoon. I've been there before and have had Asian people trying to leech me left and right.

I have to be near Golders Green at 8:30pm to meet someone, so I can't do much time consuming. :/
But I'll check out Brick/Shoreditch and Towers of London, cheers Anon!

Any other non-touristy evening suggestions?

Seriously, fuck Camden. Since they cleared out half the markets and replaced them with huge ugly thai-restraunts and tourist trap smoke shops you can't even find a bargain on the stalls anymore. The only pub i'd want to go to around there is the Dublin Castle, but that place gets paaaaaacked out on fridays, and if there's a crap band on expect a bunch of emo faggots to be spilling out onto the street.

Go shoreditch, have a burger and a beer at Cafe 1001 and bask in the glow of being surrounded by every french waiter/cook in london getting drunk.
Seriously though, east london has alot more to offer.
