San Fagciscan here, want to go to the UK through a international study program. I'd be there for a full academic year. What can I expect? Here's a list of universities to choose from:

University of Bradford
University of Bristol
University of Hull
Kingston University
University of Sheffield
University of Swansea, Wales

I'd love to see the quieter side of Britain so, let's hear it, then.

I can vouch for Kingston Uni - a little small, a little dilapidated but It's a stone's throw from london if you're bored.
None of these are particually stunning choices as far the universities of england go.. Bristol's my second best reccomendation.

Why?

Bradford is a horrible place, the only place in it which is safe and doesn't look completely terrible is the university. STRONGLY unadvised.

Bristol is a nice uni and a pretty good city. You will either love or loathe the west country accent. Potential choice.

Hull has been voted the worst the city in the UK. Nuff said.

Don't know a lot about Kingston, but I know it's in Greater London. If you are after the quieter and less well known side of Britain, maybe not a good choice.

Sheffield is one of the nicer parts of the north and a good uni.

Never been to Swansea or Wales, because the Welsh hate the fuck out of engfags such as myself. I'm sure they're probably not as racist towards other nationalities.

Google "times university guide" for UK league tables, some good descriptions of unis and their locale, etc. Good luck anon. DO NOT go to Hull or Bradford, truly horrible parts of the UK.

Swansea, Bristol and Sheffield is nice though.

I'd say Bristol. It's a really nice place even though you seem to have to go up-hill all the time if you want to get anywhere. A friend of mine goes to university there and seems to find it agreeable.

I live in London, and I would agree. Bristol.

London can be a bit unforgiving if you've never been there before.

Aye, Bristol or Kingston.

Bristol is quite nice and quiet, and good for the South West which is pleasingly rural (I highly recommend Exeter, Bath and environs).

Kingston is ok, and as noted by many, good for London, but far enough out that it's not actually London (this is a good thing). London can swallow you up and be very overwhelming.

The other places are grim holes.

Stay the fuck away from Hull. There is nothing there. Plus their accent is weird as fuck. By their, I mean 'my', because I'm from there. >______>

Sheffield is nice, for the North.

Why not Scotland?

Bristol is your less risky option. Kingston university is not very good (they were in the news for telling thier students to write good reports otherwise their degrees will mean nothing LOL) But If you are not bothered about your education, Kingston is basically in London, so long as you have your manners you should be fine? It's probably more fun.

Also, why not Glasgow?

Just the word Bath makes me want to cry, same with Battle and Hastings

Bristol, sheffield and swansea are all supposed to be good unis. I'm also pleased to inform you that all of those cites have silly accents so you can really take your pick without losing out on yokels.

What exactly will you be studying though? That should probably influence your decision. Bristol is supposed to have some of the best engineering courses around and I know that sheffield has an excellent language department.

Sheffield has the longest paternoster in the UK, if not the world! What more could you ask for?
