Can US citizens get in easily or do they hate the American menace?
>> Anonymous
I've heard that there are companies/organizations (non-profits) offering rewards for evidence of communism and abuse of N. Korean citizens by government officials/workers/police/etc/whatever.

While you are over there, take pictures of government offices and officals/workers.

There was some talk of lifting restrictions, but I don't know what happened last

You have a much better chance going in a tour group during the Arirang Festival.

They say the punishments can get harsh for you and your guide (particularlly your guide) if you misbehave. How severe are these for what kind of "misbehaviours"? Only answer if you actually know.

They hate the american menace.
South Korean can not even go in there, only a designed tourist area. Japanese and americans will also face difficulties, but exceptions happen.

There are no restrictions on voicing your opinion regarding Kim Jong-Il. Curse him. Curse him every chance you get. I've been and done it.

I've been wanting to visit NK for some time now but never had the free time and am not keen on joining the KFA. Also some of my friends were not exactly enthusiastic about going and I don't fancy going alone just in case.

Why not? It's free.

Don't really want to be part of a propaganda group for the North Korean government. Still if I have time next year I might consider it. Also an interesting article by a journalist about visiting North Korea recently in Time - http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1699876,00.html

I just got accepted and all that it gave me was access to a forum.

You let me down, Dear Leader.

Don't be fucking retarded, behave and stay with your tour guide. They will send his family to a death camp if he fucks up, I'm not kidding. That's how they've kept the populace in line, your family gets into even more shit than you.

They treat the entire family line poorly, not just immediate family.

I've always heard this or something to this effect stated, but is it actually true? To what extent? You can't exactly ask any Korean, they just totally close off. There's no way of getting a government response.

Are there foreign organisations that have verified this?

The UK apparently has an embassy there and vice versa, so I'll be able to visit some day
