Well, capitalising is perfectly legitimate for emphasis, and also CRUISE CONTROL FOR COOL.

Australia generally says 'Holiday' but plenty of people (especially east coast) now use 'vacation' too. Which makes sense, because they are no longer 'holy days' as in medieval times.

Oddly enough I say "holiday" when I'm vacationing in the country, and "vacation" when I go abroad

How sad and pedantic this thread has become eh
>> Anonymous

As someone who has lived up and down the eastcoast, I've never once hear anyone use the term "vacation" to describe going on holiday.

Anzac day/labour day/melbourne cup/queen's bday = holiday

Time away from work/family = vacation

Using the same word for two things is easier, not harder you silly person.

is it true they say "cola" in american for any fizzy drink not just cola ones?
>> Anonymous
>>23536

Oh wow, you do NOT want open that can of worms. Various different regions of America fight bitterly over this terminology. Lets just say it depends (HEAVILY) on what part of America you're in.
>> Anonymous
>>23537
Um.. no. You're thinking of Pop vs. Soda. Pop=Chicago and vicinity (Midwest) Soda=Everyone else. Nobody calls 7up cola WTF?
>>23524
It's more confusing, yes. Now TWO words for ONE thing, now THAT'S.... not.. confusing. Ahem...
>> Anonymous
>>23542
Close, but you forgot the South.
>>23536
Some areas of the South, like the one I grew up in calls everything 'Coke' and then defines what flavor of 'Coke' you want immediately afterwards when ordering (yes, even if it's a Pepsi)

University = The overall school.
Ex: Yale University, Purdue University

College = a large school within a university.
Ex: The College of Liberal Arts at Purdue University. Can also be exchanged for "school."
Ex: School of Engineering at Purdue University.

>>23542

Pop is the correct term by the way. Cola is a subset, like Coke, Pepsi, RC, etc.
>> Bizarro Godot
>>23542
Pop is the right word. Those soda folks are fucking insane.
>> Anonymous
>>23549

Not just insane, they're ignorant savages. Now don't get me started on the southern tribe who seem to insist that everything is a "Coke"
>> Anonymous
What about sodapop (:/
>> Anonymous
>>23574
can't we all just get along, and fuck the south in the ass together?
>> Anonymous
I use soda, sodapop, pop, and coke.
>> Anonymous
>>23536
It's soda. Anyone who calls it pop or cola is a dick loving faggot.
>> Anonymous
>>23536

Coke. And that's in the South. I heard that you first ask for a Coke and then what kind.

That's the kind of domination Coca Cola has down there, what with the bottling plant and all.

I say Coke, but that is because I want a damn Coke. If they happen to deal in Pepsi products, they generally ask if a Pepsi is ok (and it is).

Living in canada, west coast...I once called pop "soda" and everyone looked at me like I was a dick loving faggot...

That said, Cola is Pop, Pop is not necessarily Cola.
>> Anonymous
I say "coke" because I grew up in New Mexico, but on occasion I will use "soda" instead. "Pop" is for farm faggot though.
