I lived there for a year. It is a fantastic place to visit; the shopping is amazing, the public transportation is mind-blowingly convenient (if a little expensive) and there is so much crazy shit to see that you will have as much fun just walking around a random train station as you will at most of the popular 'tourist destinations' (most of which aren't worth whatever they're making you pay).

On the other hand, shitty place to live, especially as a foreigner. Don't recommend it at all. The only people that enjoy living there are the weeaboo faggots that teach English and enjoy that fact that they are special and that people are forced to socialize with them in a language that masks how fucking awkward and vapid they are.

the public transportation is convenient? Compared to like, small towns in middle America, yeah alright. But public transportation is only really convenient in the big cities. Get out of Tokyo, Osaka, Fukuoka, Sendai, and it's like LAWL ENJOY YOUR BUSSES THAT RUN TWICE A DAY AND YOUR TRAINS THAT LEAVE ONCE EVERY 3 HOURS.

That said, Japan is fun to visit, and is okay to live in, at least for a while. A place to live out one's days, retire, and die in? God, I don't even recommend that to Japanese people, but to spend a few years, it's fine.

I dicked around in Narita for 9 hours during a layover. This was before 9/11 airport hysteria so it was no trouble to get a stamp out/in even though it wasn't our destination. I think I bought a ceramic cat and tried some weird seafoods, like urchin and some other crunchy thing. A Brazilian guy tried to sell me nondescript drugs at a record store.

At about 10PM when places started to close we found a park to dick around in.

Of my entire trip in japan, that was my favorite place. The tourist information place was even so kind to lend people bikes so you can ride around. Oh haha, yeah I know how you feel about the transportation. And the people are so so so nice. It's almost like stepping back in time about how surreal it is.

Yeah, when I went Kochi was my favorite place too. Beaches everywhere, bamboo forests, cute little shrines in random places.

Best part is that his house is on a cliff sorta, so if you go outside you overlook the ocean. It's beautiful.

fuuuuck, now I can't wait to go back haha.

Where else did you go? I hit up Osaka and some places around it.
>> Croagunk !l8ShudDerA

Also yes, when I went to beaches there were tons and tons of surfers from around the world. They say it's an awesome spot.

Puffer fish sort of scare me though, wouldn't wanna touch one. I was fishing with his grandparents, I got a bite, pulled it up and was about to bring it towards me when it POOFED and got hueg. I freaked out because it was a fucking pufferfish and it was like 2 feet away from me.

I did 15 days in May last year, it was a fantastic experience. The people will go out of their way to help you and chat to you. On my first day wandering around Ueno park jetlagged as all fuck i was stopped by and old dude who proceeded to chat to me for an hour and a half straight about fucking EVERYTHING. In perfect english as well, he gave me directions to good places to go see and a few tips for cheap places with good food. I'd walk into bars at a night for a couple of drinks and the people would strike up conversations with me in broken english.

The vast majority of places i visited were stunning, especially Nikko and Takayama. I did alot of touristy places though which even during a non-holiday time were quite busy, especially in kyoto.

I'd say to enjoy it you either go alone, or go with like only a few friends. I went as part of an exchange and hell, when you were with the huge group it sucked balls. Don't let the fact you might get laughed at or whatever hold you back, Japan has some stunning things to see and it sucks if you're too busy wondering if your friends are going to laugh at you for looking at a shrine or something.

While we were there me and my friend got 'held up' by fake police who try to steal foreigners passports. Great fun, kept asking my friend where the bomb was, my friend kept saying he was the bomb because the badges were so god damn fake it was like ordering crab and getting oysters.

I'm going to Japan this year starting in May.

Practically I'm still planning shit and I have my doubts about some things. I'll be staying for aprox. two months. At first in a room in a guest house in Tokyo for a whole month (Sakura House if anyone of you have ever been there) then I'm gonna hit the road. Osaka, Kyoto region. Hirosima, then Kyushu and at last to Sapporo, where a friend of mine lives.

I'm going to travel completely alone for those two months and I only speak a few words of Japanese, so this is going to be very interesting I suppose.

Maybe some of you guys got some advice for me. I'm especially not so sure how things will work out in Tokyo. And maybe you got some suggestions for places to visit. I'm going to get the three week tourist railway ticket. I'm sure you guys know this. So I can basically go anywhere without any extra cost.

OK. Enough with the glitter. I've been living in Hirosaki, fucking North of Japan for almost a year now and it is not awesome at all. Yeah, delicious food, but everything fried oder sugarfilled. Everything fresh and healthy is kinda expensive. Good transport? Naw. No one is able to explain the bus system, also from 7PM till 7AM you have to walk or take a cab if you want to get everywhere - and it's snowing here from December till April, about 1-2 meters lay around during this time. There is no such thing as central heating, you might have to carry a 40-pound-kerosine bottle home.
And people are friendly but oh so fukken scared of you (and I'm a blonde girl. That's nothing to fear.) Kids and teens yell at you on the street just because you look different. Everyone tries to talk to you in Engrish or stays silent, even if you speak proper Japanese.

For all you folks coming to Tokyo to visit, have fun. I live here, but I don't know if I want to meet real /b/tards to be honest. Unless you're female. In which case I would pawn you off to some female japanese friend since I don't know shit about Harajuku/Shibuya/Ikebukuro.

Also, I find it epically funny all the trash talking about black guys in Roppongi. You all are probably thinking straight hood thugs hitting it with phat style, when the sad reality is that it's mostly Nigerians and Sudanese trying to get you to come into an overpriced titty bar. Also, Roppongi ain't like what it used to be, after they started getting serious about keeping the underage girls out. It used to be that if you were white, blond haired, and blue eyed, some 16 year old would materialize on your arm looking for trouble.

i went to tokyo last summer with my now ex-girlfriend. at the time it was a fantastic experience, but when we broke up she basically told me that my presence on that trip was expendable. so now i'm trying to back in june for a month of study abroad.

NEW MEMORIES HOOO

Planning to go some time in the summer/september. I think I'm going to plan some stuff around Osaka, not sure yet about Tokyo itself.

Or CoCo's for short?

god I love Coco's. It's the only place locally I've been able to find proper spicy food, and not "spicy" food that makes japanese people cry, but is actually super bland compared to real food. No, at Coco's you can get your shit ass-burningly hot if that's your thing, and it's brilliant.

TT_TT I always tell them "level 0" And they're like "ze-ro? no spaice?" (GOD, ENGRISH) and I'm like YEAH, **NO** SPICE.

actually i went there too, and they were good, but this was a hole-in-the-wall that was run by non-japanese. it was very popular with the lunchtime crowd.

it might've been next door to mos burger.

My students are always like, "I want to go to America!" "Why?" "I want to eat hunburgers!" "But you can eat hamburgers here..." "But, American hamburgers!" "And where would you eat an American hamburger?" "McDonalds!" "Whaat. You can buy McDonald's here! It's exactly the same, if you stick to core selections." "Really? But in America, they are bigger....." "I assure you, they aren't. Everything you know is wrong."

Then you can see their mind break a little as their defences against cognitive dissonance take longer to kick in.

Better to have a job in a country that's batshit insane than to be a lazy nigger in one's native country.

At least the ebi filet-o and teriyaki burgers are good

Probably one of the Amerifags who complain that everyone should speak English (or their variety of it).

The Mega Teriyaki was retarded. I mean, it's a nice idea if you're into huge fucking burgers, but the teriyaki sauce made it so when you picked it up, the meat turned into projectiles, shooting out of the burger at high speed.

I wish to travel to Japan with my best friend but he tends to be troublesome, annoying and whiney so I'm scared he's going to ruin the trip for me..last summer I went to Norway with him and it was horrible.

Anyway, what's the price of air fair to Japan now? 2 or 3 thousand dollars?
