Hostels: what are they like?

What are your experiences hostelling?

How common are private rooms?

I'm not a very sociable person and I dislike acquaintanceships/small talk/all that shit. How will I fare?

I ask this because I'll be travelling extensively in a while and it's likely I'll sleep mostly in hostels.

From what I've seen on hostels.com you can usually find a hostel that only costs a little extra that will give you a "private" room.

But I've never stayed in a hostel so for all I know private may mean 3 bed buddies instead of 10.

Yeah...I'd rather stay in a real hotel.

You'll meet lots of people from around the world.
We went to NYC with school and in my room there was a Finn, 2 Japanese, 1 Turkish and 1 French.
Can be fun but can also be pretty shitty, if, like in my case, one is snoring like a starting boeing 747.
Thank got that french fuck left after 2 days.
