Anyone know what cities in Europe are the most tolerant of westerners and people who only speak english? I'm Canadian and I want to get a work visa for somewhere in Europe, preferably not UK since it wouldn't be much of a culture change.

go to Berlin, very tolerant and beautiful city. Stay away from paris, they dont take too kindly to english people, especially people from the west

There are shitloads of Americans and Brits in Aix-en-Provence, southern France for some reason. You almost can't walk through the town without hearing a conversation in English.

Isn't southern France really expensive? I don't find myself getting a high paying job and would rather not live under a bridge...

Can one successfully visit Germany without knowing German?
And is Yiddish really almost just like German?
>> Anonymous
>>11052
Most big German cities speak English fluently and Yiddish is closer to Hebrew I think.

actually Yiddish is a Germanic language with Hebrew and Slavic loan words.

I (American) lived in Vienna, Austria for awhile and it was very easy to live there only speaking english. Almost everyone i encountered was fluent BUT the job part would be more difficult as almost all professional/career type jobs are in german.

I now live in Poland. The atmosphere and culture is outstanding plus the women are drop dead gorgeous.

yiddish and german share some words, and others are very similar, but just talking english will get you farther - almost every german below the age of 60 or so speaks at least some english.

Sweden has, as far as I know, a lot of companies that use English as their working language since they employ many foreigners. You can't say this about any German or Frensh company.

Generally, people in small countries tend to bother themselves much more with English since they recognize that their language is not of much use.

florence was awesome as far as people speaking english. but why not learn a new language?

Prague.

All of them. English is Europe's second language. I was in a shop in Corfu the other week, listening to a Greek and German talk to each other. Guess what they were speaking? Yup, English. Virtually every major city in western Europe is full of people who speak English as they're second language.
>> Anonymous
>>11188
Except Paris. Paris is full of people who pretend they don't know English if you speak to them in fluent, accent-free English.
Pretend like you barely know it, then maybe they'll cooperate.
>> Anonymous
>>11198
That's common sense, really. Just pick up some French and try not to talk much.

Amsterdam, full of weed and whore's and people who speak English.

Fixed.

Op here, it's not that I don't want to learn a knew language but I don't think I can afford to sit around learning a language before getting a job, i'de rather already be in a place where I can speak english while learning another language

I moved from Berlin to Frankfurt recently. It is made of Aids and brown people. Can't wait to get away from here.

You know what? People who are ignorant of americans or racist, shouldn't stop you from visiting that place. Not everybody is like that.

Dresden.

A lot of german cities feel very "inbred", I think, so stay close to Bohemia and Austria.
>> Anonymous

>this is some sort've parody right?
roughly translated, the refrain says:

"This is Duisburg: Nobody wants to come here.
Yes, This is Duisburg: And it wouldn't make any sense.
You really have to born here to be able to endure it.
Everyone who moves here will soon get sick of it."

Well its a parody but not as bad as he presents it. Its a dirty city, people are assholes and there is no money but its a nice place to live.
>> Anonymous
>>11227
If you have a lot of money it's Munich.
If you have some money it's Frankfurt.
If you have money it's Hamburg or any city in the Ruhrpott.
If you are a retarded unemployed-arrogant-cheap fuck, well Berlin is your City.
