Egypt, dewds? Anonymous
Have any of you ever been in Egypt. I lived there for two months or so for work. Visit the pyramid, nile, etc...etc...but nothing impressed me more than the St. Catherine monastery in Sinai. That's the place where Moses received the 10 commandments.

I'm planning to go there again maybe next year, so I need a travel plan this time. Perhaps all the way to Turkey. Just me, my backpack, and an 80GB iPod.

That pic looks like that of a miniature model. Also, backpacking through the Middle East is probably not a bright idea.

don't be a wimp. Of course it's a good idea. You get to see all kinds of cool shit.

I know a girl who cycled through Turkey and has done the same through Israel, Egypt and Jordan you pussy. Nonetheless, you're probably safer never leaving your basement.

Alone? I'm surprised she didn't get raped.
I am Turkish BTW.

Don't be a fucking pussy. There are plenty of safe areas of the ME. If you're smart and male, you'll be fine. If you're female, go in a group. If you're dumb, who cares. Egypt is not Yemen for fuck's sake.

Egypt is a shithole.
People only go there because of the pyramids.
>> Anonymous
You won't be raped if you limit your visits to tourist-infested parts of Egypt, then to Israel, aand uhhh... somehow get to Turkey.

Egypt -> Israel -> Lebanon -> Turkey ??

I'm not sure if you could get from Israel to Lebanon very easily, in fact I wouldn't recommend it either.

>>17610
there is no border between lebanon and turkey, you have to get in syria one way or the other

>>17611
Aww, guess I'm not that good at geography.
Anyway, as far as I know, Syria isn't the best place to visit.

It isn't a nice place to visit, but there is rule of law - in the cities...

Not the safest place to be traveling from one end to the other.

...now that I think, why not go through Egypt to Israel, traverse ze holy land, and take a ferry or something to Turkey, to Iskenderun or Adana, and then continue your march from the southern edge of the country to Istanbul?
>> Anonymous
>>17620
The question is... Is there such a ferry?

going to ben gurion airport would kill the trip, find a ferry

I've heard Egyptians are 'assholes with soul'. is this true?

Wait, what?

Aren't you b& from Israel if you visit an Arab state and vice-versa?

At least if it's stamped on your passport...

OP: Go from Cairo, to either Jordan or Saudi Arabia, then go to Lebanon. Hang out in the lebanese mountains, especially in the cedar forests, well worth the trip. From there you've got to cross Syria into Turkey, but north-western Syria is stable enough, not psychotic like the country in general.

Then when you enter Turkey you'll be 100% safe. Nothing has happened in Turkey since like the war during the coldwar. Very strong country, so no political instability to worry about. I personally don't feel safe in some countries out there, namely Iraq and Iran. But I'm a christian lebanese, they'd pretty much open-fire after me.

Syria/0 = Safe

Good luck OP. Like somebody said, if you're a woman, good luck. You'll get raped like instantly, and you'll probably get tossed in prison if you don't wear their clothing. For men you have to respect the whole "lol mecca" during the day but otherwise you're clear.

Egypt -> Israel -> Lebanon/Turkey is the only way to go really. You'll most likely be denied access into Lebanon if crossing from Israel though, and will most likely not be able to cross into Israel for the first place if they stamped your passport. Also, avoid north isreal / south lebanon if you go there, and avoid anything near palestine except maybe Jerusalem.

You don't want to be stuck in palestine.

Jordan and Egypt have peace treaties with and recognise Israel, thus you're allowed to travel freely between them.

but not with lebanon

so I second the ferry-to-turkey idea
>> Anonymous
Why the hell would you want to go to Israel?

It's like a Western country because of all the monies sent by the US, except it's loaded with filthy kikes.

I'd go to New York if I wanted that. Stay clear of Israel.

disregard this butthurt idiot, israel is a very interesting place to visit, and actually it's mostly safe

I lived on the Sinai in Egypt for about 6 months, and it was pretty bangi. I totally agree that St. Catherine is awesome!

I traveled Turkey, flew from Istanbul to Tel Aviv, and then headed down to Egypt that way.

I have never heard of any ferries to Turkey from Israel or Egypt, though. I know you can catch ferries from Greece/Italy to Egypt, though.

Maybe you could do Israel, Egypt, Greece, Turkey?

I'm going to Alexandria this summer. My dad has a condo waiting for me.

ecept for the fact that there is no record of Israelites being enslaved in Egypt, nor is there a (reliable; bible is not reliable) record of Moses.

I've been to Syria, no problems at all. Stay away from the borders with Iraq and Israel and you'll be OK. There are a lot of worse places, I would rather be in Damascus at night than a lot of South American cities, at least as far as safety goes.

Syria as a country is acting like a country full of goddamn niggers, this is coming from an arab. It's not like you'll get raped every moment, but Syria isn't as much win as say Turkey is, in terms of how they run the place.

OP: I second the person who reccomended Egypt -> Turkey -> Israel -> Greece/Italy/??? -> Profit!

Alexandria fucking stank - literally

but yeah, it's actually a beautiful city when you learn to ignore the persistent smell of shit and get used to the disgusting food.
