How is Sydney as a city to live in? My moms boyfriend just told what I thought about living there and I know nothing about that city.

Enjoy commuting 40 ks to and from work - held hostage to the car of course, because the public transport's in a class of shittiness of its own.

yeah but that depends if you are in the city or the suburbs, if you are in the city rent is goin to be hugely expensive and the prices of property is well out of the reach of the average australian.

HENCE ENORMOUS COMMUTING TIMES AS MENTIONED

And on the house:

- Mosquitos for 11 months of the year
- Racial tension and race-based gangs

I don't think any Australian city is worth moving to if food is the top priority. We're not exactly known for our world-class cuisine. In fact, we don't even have our own cuisine beyond Vegemite and meat pies, it's all just a mish-mash of different cuisines from around the world.
>> Anonymous
>>30293
Although if you are any kind of decent human, the vegemite alone is worth coming down for.

Everything in Sydney is fucking expensive. It's the London of Australia.

Also; Redfern. Nuff said.

Australia's national cuisine is Austalianised takes on all the world's cuisines, not just beer-spread and pies. In terms of all-round quality, price, access and range, we have the virtually the best food in the world. This fact means you can actually get superior Chinese/Indian/Mexican in Australia than you can in China/India/Mexico.

I am yet to go to one non-shitty Chinese restaurant in Australia. Chinese food is 9000x better in China than here, because nearly every restaurant I went to there, no matter how cheap and obscure, had amazing food.
I haven't been to Mexico or India, but I'm fairly sure the same would apply to them.
I'm not saying our food is terrible, there's a lot of good restaurants, but food isn't as heavily intergrated into our culture as much as countries such as China, Mexico, France, Italy, etc.

Autosuggestion, grass is greener syndrome, etc

Great cuisine is nothing but great ingredients and culturally derived expertise. Australia has both, China usually only the latter.

You're kidding me, right? Have you ever gone to China to taste authentic Chinese food, or are you making that statement based on stereotypes?
In Western countries, the vast majority of Chinese restaurants use cheap commercial subsitutes for crucial ingredients in Chinese cooking, like sauces. In China, in the vast majority of restaurants it's all authentically made, more abiding by traditional recipes. The end result also tastes much, much better.

I'm no Chink, but I am enthusiastic about food, and I'll tell you that China is definitely in the top 5 in the world in cuisine.

But I'm not sure why we're arguing about food here in a thread about living in Sydney, when this really should be taken to /ck/.

BECAUSE YOU CAN ONLY GET CHINESE IN RESTAURANTS

>>China is definitely in the top 5 in the world in cuisine.

THERE'S A GLOBAL LADDER OF CUISINE AWESOMENESS AND CHINA'S IN GOOD FOR THIS SEASON O OK

Australian posting from Guangdong. Chinese food is always awesome. Australian Chinese food is fine. Chinese Chinese food is better. Even the shittiest little hole in the wall has better food than I ever had back home.

Chinese cuisine is the best simply because of it's breadth, I mean, there is something for EVERY taste in chinese cuisine - it derives from 8 seperate traditions. It can countless sub-cuisines underneath those traditions and so on.

Most chinese cuisine sold abroad is Catonese anyway.

I'm Australian and I've been to china, and the food over there is tonnes better than the chinese food here. Before I went there I was told the food would be worse, that the chinese here kind of westernise their food and that the food in china would be bland. It was anything but bland. And this is not just restaurants but also little stands operated by like 1 or 2 people and even my girlfriend's mother's cooking.

>>30347
I hear the food there is awesome, is it? I want to go there some day just for the food haha.

In my honest and humble opinion...

Chinese Food

I live in Western Sydney.

Some things you won't like:
-Public transport is totally fucked; you need a car to get anywhere
-Terribly expensive unless you're rich or live way out west

Overall as a city to live in I like it. Never gets too cold, there are a shitload of nice parks and beaches, so many hot wimminz around, haven't even seen a mosquito in years (may change if you live close to the water tho), there's a lot to do.

Really it's hard to describe it because to do that well I'd need to compare it to another city and it's not like I've lived all over the world or anything. Just ask some specific questions.

As Australian cities go, Sydney's nice to visit. If you want to live somewhere, Perth & Melbourne are better.

I'm an artist, 3D animator, and techie. I know Australia's pretty good on these things and that I can find work (pic semi-related). I want to network with other creative people. I need creative outlets. Music means a lot too.

I feel pretty limited in Dallas, TX. What do you think I'd find in Sydney, or any Australian location?
