Hey /trv/ I'm going to Scotland in August, what's good to see/do there?

srsly?

Yep. They're obsessed with breaking away from England but don't seem to realise that Scotland brings in nothing compared to England. They hate everyone.

not sure if i want to go now....

Many Scots are deluded into believing they are God's gift to the world having invented everything and that they are constantly getting screwed over by the English. It's my theory that a deep-seated inferiority complex lies at the heart of this irrational nationalism.

As for your question, Edinburgh is your best bet for a "cultured" city; Glasgow has its perks but also a lot of run down parts, so watch out for “neds” (the Scottish equivalent to chavs). If you want to see more of Scotland then venture out into the countryside and visit some of the places the Royal Family hang out. Pic related.

protip: don't go to Dundee, it is a shite-hole disguised as the 4th biggest city in Scotland
>> Anonymous
Anyone familiar with Orkney?
>> Anonymous
Pfft not all of us scots are SNP wankers.

Avoid Dundee and Aberdeen. Absolute bum holes. Glasgow is good if you like gigs and nights out, shopping too aparrently.

Edinburgh has the castle, art galleries, old town, old town/royal mile/the mound - all the old 'romantic' stuff.

Stirling has a nice castle but the William wallace monument is overpriced and shit.

North Berwick has a nice beach and a visit to Roselyn Chapel is good - especially if you are one of those retards who believes the divinci books.

I know nothing about the Highlands and Islands though - except that they are expensive

Studying in Scotland has done nothing for your spelling.

If you can, go to Edinburgh. It's a wonderful place, especially if you manage to catch one of the arts festivals. Scotland's a nice place, and believe me it's not all SNP-supporting English-hating twats. Try going to couple of the cities' homepages for information on attractions etc, since I'm not an expert. Loch Ness is worth it too if you're into the tourist ting, but a long way out.

I'm in Glasgow now actually. got here about 3 weeks ago now. Went to Edinburgh about a week ago. Architecture is amazing there. They're working on the big central park thing at the moment which sucked. But if you like history the castle is good.

July is probably better because there is more music festivals and stuff, but the other guy is right, Glasgow is better known for the nightlife but is quite rough. I went and got some movies out last night and walked past a group of neds that were as scary as fuck.

I like it here. It's grey and rainy (actually it's been sunny the last few weeks) but it has got a lot of charm.

Found by the Royal Navy.

Drilled by Britain.

Owned by Britain.

Scotland has and never will come into it as an independent entity. Enjoy your further enhanced poverty, racists.

to the britfags, I should ask without polluting the place with another thread

is the university of aberdeen any good? or the university of bath? I'm thinking of hitching an erasmus-ride there...
>> Sirius !!E15pBGjypBG
Not everyone in Scotland hates its neighboring lands. Im glad we're part of Britain, we wouldnt make it independantly. Eh, Scottish people seem nice when they're 20+ of age. Anyone under that will be a ned/chav. But, not all the teens are bad. Infact, alot arent neds.

Things to do...The Wallace Monument in Stirling is pretty nice and intresting I guess. Theres a museum filled with Scottish crowns that are pretty damn beautiful. Theres a theme park, M&D's, thats ...well, its small but, not bad.

To be honest, Im a landscape kinda guy. I love views from mountains, hills, the beaches etc. Scotland has some really nice views but, watch out for the weather.

I was their for a week. Couldn't care less about it until I got to the highlands. Most beautiful place in the whole world.

Go to Edinburgh. I am American; I had absolutely no one treat me poorly when I was there. If you're there in August check out the Fringe Festival; I was there in March, so there wasn't a lot going on and the city was nice and calm and not very crowded.

I really enjoyed Mary King's Close, Holyrood Palace, and Camera Obscura. Dynamic Earth was okay. Auld Reekie Tours did a great tour that takes you through Old Town and down into the underground. Also if (like me) you're only going to be in the city for a few days, climb up Calton Hill instead of hiking up Arthur's Seat, the view is comparable plus there are all the crazy monuments to see.

Livingston is about to enter a new era and behind it lies The Elements, a superb, dynamic and inviting indoor-outdoor retail environment where people can shop, eat, relax or meet - whatever the weather.

This impressive new destination will feature a magnificent ETFE plastic roof combined with wide walkways and open terraces to create a bright, welcoming environment for shoppers.

The centre will attract a number of new retailers with Debenhams and Marks & Spencer already signed up to anchor the development. Over 35 stores encompassing a unique contrast of high street names, designer brands and independent boutiques will be integrated into the scheme with stylish and lively restaurants, cafes and bars. Modern facilities and services and state-of-the-art leisure and entertainment venues will ensure The Elements has a vibrancy by day and by night.

Land Securities fully supports the endorsement of public art and this will be continued through its scheme in Livingston; modern architecture will be complemented by new civic spaces reflecting the theme of The Elements.

Livingston already has parking facilities for over 9,450 cars in the town centre and this will grow when the new multi-storey car park, which will accommodate over 1,500 vehicles, is constructed adjacent to The Elements development. This will increase accessibility to the centre and ease of use.
