It's called the zone of alienation. Yes, I've been there. Thrice. I was the photographer who took OP's upload.

Aren't there tourist tours?
I remember seeing pics on google earth, where you can see whole groups of people, with a guide and even some souvenir guys.

I've heard you can go through legitimately, IE in tours that only take you to certain safe places around the outer edge, or with stalkers through like, gaps in the fence.

HOW LIKELY AM I TO DIE OF RADIATION POISONING IF I DO THE LATTER
>> Anonymous
>>56108
You should have some generic knowledge about radioactivity, know the difference between the 3 types of radiation, know how to operate a Geiger counter.
Get some protective gear too, too keep that dust away from your body.

since i live in liek 100 km from the station, i can tell that yes, that is very true. however, the best tour (i mean the one where you see Pripyat', the giant car scrapyards, and stand in 500 meters from the sarcophagus, then some villages with old people who returned to live there, and lots of wild animals (the thing is very much like a nature preserve)) costs something like 600 bucks.
And i have two problems with it:
1.i sure am not paying 600 bucks to travel 100 km
2.and i have some doubts about health risks. even though there is no danger, I was kind of brought up in an environment where we always thought that it was the worst fucking place on earth. but when they started to make organized tours in somewhere around '00 lots of people have changed their minds.

Thanks for the info! Is the tour you're talking about a legitimate one, or with some stalker or other?

Being from the UK, 600 dollars (I'm assuming US?) to go right into the heart of the zone seems reasonable to me. I'd rather not get cancer and die or anything weird though.

Can you guys eloborate on the motor bike chick photo series being fake?
The last time I read though that site several years ago I was very entertained. How do you know it's faked and how faked exactly is it?

she went on the tour and several people reported seeing her posing for pictures with a motorcycle helmet, or something
