Hey there /trv/!

So I'm planning a trip (it happens to be in two weeks) to visit my boyfriend who's studying abroad. Since he's on the other half of the planet, I'm in for a long, cramped, nonstop plane ride on the cheapest seats possible on an asian carrier.

Not too worried about the flight (I can entertain myself pretty well for 14 hours) but I am worried about jetlag--I want to be as happy and energetic as possible for him when he meets me at the gate.

Do you have any tips or tricks for avoiding jetlag?

I have also heard about something weird called the "jetlag diet"--anyone have any information?

well no advice but when I went from Seattle(U.S.) to London England I had no effects that I could attribute to "jet lag"

Just drink a Red Bull or something before you get off. You really can't avoid jet lag too much, as your body will need time to adjust to the time difference. Unless your boyfriend is a douche, I'm sure he'll understand that you had a very long flight.

Also, jet lag is easier to get over if you're traveling in a certain direction, but I forget if it's east or west. I assume it's west because going in that direction means your day will get longer, and I'd guess that staying up longer is a bit easier than trying to go to sleep earlier.

in my experience, heading east, across the pacific from Japan to north america is easier than coming back west across the pacific to Japan. That said, the worst jet lag I've ever had just involved me sleeping at a decent time my first day on the ground in tokyo, and passing out for a 3 hour nap the next afternoon.

yeah, just try and sleep during the flight on your destinations time too

if you're flight is in the morning, don't sleep the night before your flight. Just sleep the entire plane ride be more adjusted when you land.

Just fight it, don't sleep on the flight if you can and you should fall asleep when you get there.

Going out isn't bad because you'll get tired earlier in the day. Coming back East is the worst part...

I would adivse that you move around on the plane to avoid the whole blood clot thing people seem to get from sitting still for too long. Even if it's just walking up and down the aisle once or twice.

When you land stay awake until it would normally be time for you to sleep- so if you normally go to bed at 10pm, go to bed at that time at your destination- do not take naps or anything. Try and stay awake. You might take coffee, but definitely don't drink any cups late afternoon, evening.

It depends on the person. I have no trouble going east, but when my family and I arrived in London (from California), they were all asleep in the hotel while I felt fine.

After you get to where you're going, take off your shoes and socks, and walk around on the bathroom rug and make fists with your toes.

easier if you fly west, for me.

Jet lag is really a bunch of nonsense anyway. I only had it bad once, because i got blasted in the face by the sun at 4am every morning for a week. that was only half jet lag though, cause what happened is my body adjusted but adjusted 3 hours too early. other than that, i have never had a problem with it.

If you're heading to Dubai you can end up in prison for over the counter jet lag remedies. even ones they sell in their own country. their drug laws are fucked. just look up the Endemol guy they've got locked up.
