Hey /trv/

I am looking to visit a very historical place.
Well preserved where there are houses from 1400 around every corner and castles are commonplace.

Some where in Spain perhaps?

How about Poland?
I hear it is rather untouched by war and disaster

I don't think that is what OP was asking for?

the old part of Tallinn, Estonia is beautiful. it is an old Hanseatic port on the Baltic, and in the city center pretty much everything is at least 600 years old. the remaining wall sections are awesome, they have one of the tallest church spires in the world and if nothing else brings you in the liquor is beyond cheap. you will have to deal with the occasional ugly-as-sin concrete Soviet behemoth, but most of those have been replaced by steel and glass, and as i said, the city center itself is almost untouched.

Scotland my friend... You want a land of old castles... either scotland or the Emerald Isle (Ireland for those of you who don't know)

The Alamo

Ireland only has the ones used for fortification, which are pretty cool, but I think OP wants the ones made by homosexual kings, and there never were gays in Ireland.

You should go to France, the homeland of homosexuality, they have very pretty castles

Fucking fairy castles.

Now THIS is a fort. Surrounded by scree so enemies would have to approach on foot. Elevated on clear landscape so you can see them coming. Multiple walls allowing for several lines of defense. Utterly unapproachable from one side and if all else fails you make a clear leap so your enemy can;t take you alive.

i hope your pic is ironic OP, they built neuschwanstein in the 1800s - there are photos of it being built - and its made to look way bigger than it is by having smaller than normal windows and such.

one of my bigger travel let-downs

Apart from Versailles and La Loire not really. Most French castles are Vauban style military fortresses.
For realy pretty castles nothing beats Italy.

pic unrelated (it's Mohonk Mountainhouse in NY, just reminded of it by the OP).

I went to Perugia/Umbria in Italy and there were some castles and old houses all over the place. I actually stayed in a castle up in the mountains. The insides of the buildings had been redone to have modern amenities but the outsides and courtyards still looked very old.

Spain/France are good ideas. Much of both has been spared through limited front fighting, surrender in war and efforts to keep them. Unlike London, say, where most buildings are relatively new. When I visited France and UK I couldn't help but notice the difference in architecture, so many Paris buildings were much older.

Maybe. I'm quite fond of Serbia now I think about it

Istanbul is another idea, but I really don't know

paris is overrated..
get out of paris if youre going to france and see other places. paris was rebuilt in like 1780, so most buildings arent that old.

go to rennes, reims, rouen, strasbourg, quimper, avignon, marseille, and just for shits annecy.

also see Prague, in the czech republic. awesome city. and cheap too

See the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. If you like you can also swim around naked.
