First time to Aussie Anonymous
Hey /trv/,
I'm leaving from California to Sydney, AU this sunday and staying for a month. Besides places to visit what tips can you give me for the long flight cause what can i say I'm super paranoid and nervous, but also excited. The longest flight I've been on has been about 8 hours, and its been a while and the flight to theres is gonna be 14 hours. Also any places i should avoid while there?
>> Anonymous
go to melbourne

Long flights like that are usually pretty cool. Movies, music, decent food, etc. If you're worried about any kind of motion sickness, I'd bring some dramamine. Shit works wonders for me. Just make sure you bring something to do if you're not the type that can sleep on an airplane.

Also double-check with the airline what you can and can't bring in a carry on since rules are pretty tight these days and you don't want to go through shit like that.

I've made at least four 14 hour flights and I've never had a problem. Wear comfortable clothes and don't be afraid to kick off your shoes and ask for delicious airplane pillows. You'll be fine!
>> Anonymous
op here, the only thing i'm really paranoid over is the whole blood clot scare and dvt. I know I just have to keep active on the flight, take aspirin,do exercises and walk around but i know I'm at a higher risk for it
>> Anonymous
>>46447
yeah this, don't be afraid to shift around and walk around and be annoying, make trips to the bathroom or just whatever.
Simple exercises are like, tensing up your lower leg/foot muscles as hard as you can and then relaxing, tensing, relaxing, etc.

Other than that, lucky fucker. I want more than anything to go there one day.

i got a really good deal on the ticket via quantas, since they do promotions every so often (like every 2-3 months or so) for tickets starting at 950.00 U.S and that includes that annoying fuel tax. My lucky break is i'll be staying with my boyfriend so i don't have to worry about hotel expenses and such. Still planning everything months in advance is SUCH a great help in keeping the trip from breaking the bank
>> Anonymous
OMG you totally have to come to adelaide

!!
>> Anonymous
>>46447
Blood clot scare? DVT? Is this something that just recently came up and the media is flipping out about or what? I never heard any of this mentioned prior to any of my flights.
>> Anonymous
>>46455
Op again, apparently so cause thats all i've been reading/ hearing about. The whole issue stems from staying seated for a long period of time and typically the clot will form in the leg and can potentially dislodge and head up towards the lungs and is usually fatal. It also doesn't help that again from what I've read, it can sit in the leg for about eight weeks

only if u do 14 hour flights every few days and not do excercises or you're fat as fuck.

you'll be fine!
>> Anonymous
>>46442Also any places i should avoid while there?
Melbourne. ;)

Bear in mind that it's winter here atm, you won't want to go much further south than Sydney. I'd probably travel up the eastern seaboard (Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, the Reef and the islands, Cairns, Whitsundays, etc) where it's not so cold/relatively warm.

Don't stress about the flight either, airlines have been traversing the Pacific for decades.

I'm an experienced traveler )although still young)
i resettled in aus from england and i know all about long flights

Aus.... go north tot he gold coast and all that jazz... cairns... the islands...... its all good....
then... after that

GO TO MELBOURNE..... best place in the world... (i been to 22 countries.)

Long flight tips : don't eat the food watch as many movies as possible.. and drug yourself with sleeping pills to get onto Aussie time before u leave
>> Anonymous
>>46492
sorry forgot to add... take advantage of the airline... ask them for whatever you want, don't feel bad think of how much u payed, go nuts on the free alchy (keep calling for more) but don't get to fucked or they put you in cuffs... and oh try pick up on the fllight and...

AVOID ADELAIDE. (Perth is also a separate vacation outside Australia)

Qantas is possibly the most government cotton-wooled airline on the planet and it still manages to be mediocre

Melbourne is by far our best city. Then Brisbane and Perth. In that order.

Lots of good beaches because despite the stereotype we're too fucking lazy to go out and use them mostly. Arid as fuck for 70% of the country (more in summer).

Fucked up animals. God was trippin balls when he made Australia's wildlife.

Sydney shits me off. Adelaide hasn't changed for 40 years. Tasmania (Hobart) is fucking inbred and shit, mostly treehugging faggots. Northern Territory (Darwin) is good if you're an outside person. Good fishing, wildlife, natural environment and so on.

Avoid abbos.

Sydney is a shithole and Townsville is pretty crappy too. And I'm from Adelaide and it sucks balls (though not as much as sydney, darwin or TAS).

Protip OP: Aus (Oz) is the country, Aussies are the people.

Sydney is perfectly fine, I enjoyed it a lot in my month there. Take time to travel down to Cronulla for the nightlife & beaches, but for a quiet beach with beautiful scenery, try further south at Thirroul or Wollongongongongongong.

Go to Perth, and watch an AFL game. Stay away from the faggotry Rugby. Adelaide's pretty awesome. Has a few beer factories and chocolate factories.

Melbourne is pretty good for shopping. Has lots of pretty awesome markets, like the Queen Victoria Markets.

Sydney's shit, so don't go around there.

Possibly go to the Gold Coast (Near Brisbane, Queensland), and go to the theme parks. They're pretty awesome.

That's about it.
>> Anonymous
>>Go to Perth, and watch an AFL game.

Go to Manchester, and ride a doubledecker bus!

FACT: Sydney is the equivalent of Los Angles, but without any cultural diversity. Do a bridge climb, see the tourist sights, then get the hell out of Sydney and go down to Melbourne.

I love how every filthy criminal in this thread has derailed it with their own personal preferences.

HE'S GOING TO SYDNEY, AND ASKING FOR THINGS TO DO IN SYDNEY.

PS: Perth? Lololololololol

>THINGS TO DO IN SYDNEY.

There's nothing to do in Sydney, apart from get yelled at by faggots/lebs.

And Perth is the greatest place in Australia. Apart from Glenrowan.

>>And Perth is the greatest place in Australia. Apart from BENTLEIGH IGA ON CENTRE.
>> Anonymous
Perth isn't part of Australia, ditto Adelaide and Tasmania. Anyone telling you to move to these places is just trying to lure you there to rape and mutilate you.

In fact just stay in the three eastern states and ignore the rest. That's what everyone tends to do anyway.
>> Anonymous
>>47863

well said anon. Perth , while being a nice place and all, might as well be part of south africa. The place is nice, the people aren't, all wankers and drugged up bikies, and ben cousins. that's about it. Eastern states is where it's at.

Visit Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Brissy is nice and sunny, sydney's full of yuppies but everybody goes there for the historical side of things and it's geared towards the tourists who want to experience australia without going far, and melbourne's just awesome. Ignore the sydney's shit and melbourne's shit debate, these two cities have had a friendly rivalry forever.

Oh, and ignore canberra, the only thing there are politicians, boredom, roundabouts, fireworks and legal pr0n.

please stay at the gold coast, friend. i think you will be at home there

No one in Australia likes ANYONE in Australia. The only thing we agree on is Tasmanian's are inbred.

As for Ned Kelly, he does have a sort of worship as a hero, because he fought against the corrupt police force.
If you'd like a quick study, check out the history of Australian film. You'll find as we started making movies, we did a lot about bushrangers. The US has it's Western Heroes, we have our Bushrangers.
