Cheap-ass wants to see Europe Anonymous
Sup /trv/,

I'm graduating from high school/college (long-ass story) in less than three months. I've always wanted to go see Europe, but now the dollar is a fucking joke. (Also, broke-ass student with no job.) Long story short, what is the cheapest way to get to Europe? In particular I want to go to Amsterdam, but all the flights during the summer are so fucking expensive.

Are there any travelers experienced in the art of Semitic spending habits willing to give a word of advice?

Try and find some budget airlines. (you guys have those, right?) Also book early like>>13359said

It's quite strong at the moment.

The yen doesn't even amount to a cent.

Plane tickets are cheaper during the off season. You could also try and get a discount through a student travel agency.

actually, the yen is almost exactly a cent these days
LAWL SHITTY AMERICAN DOLLAR

How little it's worth is completely fucking irrelevant by itself, you dumbass.

As long as they have a shitload of it in comparison to its exchange rate, it's strong.
Unlike your weak-ass shit dollars.

And probably go to Spain, I hear stuff there is cheaper, well compared to France at least. Been to Amsterdam once but that was with my family so I didn't really take notice about costs. Shitloads of Mary Jane everywhere though.

Was true but Spain has nearly caught up, like Ireland did before. Good plans like this only remain true for a few years in the EU because both funds and people flow from rich to less rich countries.
Spain remains a nice country otherwise, though I liked France better personally. I loved Italy too.

Italy is ftw, but Italians can't drive for shit.

Yeah ... Greeks are pretty dangerous too. And Cairo is perhaps even worse.

Cairo is not in Europe.

You could hitchhike across Europe. They used to have this show on TV where one team hitchhiked from Girbraltar to the North Cape (most southern point to most northern point of Europe) and one team went the other way. I think one of the teams actually made money playing the saxophone.

OP here

Does anybody have any idea on the average cost for a trip to Europe? And when I say trip, I mean the trip as a whole not just the flight. I've done a little research, but it doesn't look so good. Dollar-to-Euro exchange made me ;_;
>> Bocket
I'd probably wait a bit. The dollar-euro exchange rate is so bad right now that it makes people laugh here. There's a lot of Dutch people right now actually taking short vacations to America just to shop and load up on goods before returning. (hell I went for three weeks and I miss having steak every night)

Anyway if you want to stay here on the cheap I suggest you don't actually stay in Amsterdam but find a nice hostel in the surrounding area. Hostels are a lot cheaper, especially if you take a dorm or shared room. Our public transportation is pretty decent so you can get into Amsterdam fairly cheap. If you're in decent shape and your hostel is close enough you could even choose to rent, or buy a bicycle to get around. (it usually isn't hard to find some smelly dude near the station selling stolen bicycles cheap)

Get involved in:
couchsurfing.com -- see if there are local meet ups where you can meet and greet all the local couchsurfers in your area. The more connections you have, the more likely people are to trust you and invite you into their homes

hithchikers.org is pretty sweet too...

Europe was, is, and will always be expensive, no matter the exchange rate. When the dollar bought £0.94 shit was still twice the price in the U.S.

Go to a poor area of a poor country (like southern Spain) and you’ll be treated like a king.
