Supai, AZ Anonymous
I just got back from a road trip across the SW USA. While I was driving through Arizona i learned about a remote indian town at the bottom of the Grand Canyon. The town isnt accessible from any road and the mail is brought in by mule train. Its called Supai. In 1990 the census recorded 423 people, in 2000 the census erroneously recorded zero people living there. Today its hard to know how many people live there, propably between 500-600.

Do any of you know anything about this city? Im fascinated by a place so remote, yet so close to civilization. I mean they bring the mail in on fucking mules, yet the city is maybe 100 or so miles from Las Vegas.

Admittedly the place is likely a shithole. If its anything like the other indian reservations in the SW, then its like a second world country. Still im fascinated, your thoughts /trv/?

Probably the reason they have such a hard time coming up with official numbers for the population is due to the majority (read: all) of the "residents" being old hippies who stay there for a year or two and then move back to suburbia after getting dysentery.

Been down to the village a few times. Great place to camp and maybe farm. Other then that, it's a ten mile hike in and a ten mile hike out.

The water and waterfalls are beautiful and if you want to live the lazy life, and have the money to afford to do so, I'd highly recommend at least a trip down there in the summer.

It's also a good drive to get to the trail head.

Oh, and the town's decent. Has a rec center, a hotel, a shop and a resturant.

It's a definite if you're looking for beautiful water and easy living.
