14 Days in Tokyo Anonymous
So, normally I am in /tg/ and /k/ and even occasionally lurk in /b/ (0 point in posting there)... /jp/ was confusing and not helpful, so I figured this would be the best place to ask.

I have an upcoming trip to Tokyo, Chiba-ken, Narashino-shi, Yatsu area in September, and I was hoping to get some recommendations from /trv/ as to what I should not miss while there.

I am very interested in /trv/'s opinion. I would think you guys would have some good suggestions.

I have been reading about maid cafes. Meido (sp?) Sounds like an interesting experience. Does /jp/ have any experience there? Any specific suggestions for which cafes may be more American friendly? Which ones will offer the best service/experience?

Also, have you guys ever heard of this themed restaurant called "Ninja Asakasa"? (link to relevant article: http://dining.in-japan.jp/2007/06/ninja_restaurant_in_akasaka_to.html )

Thx

(pic quasi-related; it's temple wishes, can't read 'em, though)

Goddamn, I almost raged. Why the fuck does that board even exist?

If you're adventurous, buy a 2-week JR Pass and take a train out of town and go where Japanese people vacation. Tokyo is an amazing place, but you'll be missing the real Japan if staying in town is all you do.

>>35337Rage on, rage on. I rage at least 2x a day due to /tg/

Thx for the JR tip. Noted.

"place that Japanese people vacation" <--- Do you know of any in particular?

further refined.

Anyways, OP, I think your a fucking wacko to be so concerned over the bizzare themed restraunts in Japan. Then again, everyone on 4chan is a fucking wacko. Also, Japanese people are actually extremely embarassed that these places, espeically maid cafe's exisit. Some of them might not let you in, because they figure most westerners will be all "OMG WTF, JAPANESE PEOPLE ARE FUCKING BATSHIT INSANE" which is exactly the case. Japanse people are not proud of their retarded culture in those aspects and will not want foriegners seeing these things.

Anyways, the only themed restaurant i'd go to in Asia would be the Hitler/Nazi Bars in south Korea.

>>In the grim, dark future of /tg/ there is only 40k.

Ok, thanks for the useful info. So, basically keep my fucking mouth shut about this stuff around my Japanese co-workers. Check.

As to my own craziness, I won't deny it... but I really don't know much about anime/manga. I just heard about the places with people in crazy costumes, which sounds like it could be an out there experience. To bad that the Japanese are too ashamed of that stuff to really talk about it...

So tell me more about the Nazi/Hitler bars... I will actually be in Seoul for a week as well... That sounds crazy fun, too.

May I recommend Mt. Fuji, Hakone, and the Izu Peninsula.
>> Anonymous
>>35352You may indeed, and I thank you for it.

Mt. Fuji was on the list already, but the others will be thoroughly googled in short order. Thx.

>>35353
Also, if you're willing to go further, Hokuriku, Ise and the coast of the Kii Peninsula are some of the places I've been wanting to visit myself.

/tg/ exists so /m/ doesn't get filled with Faulty Kei

Sage because this post of mine isn't worth bumping the thread.

I know 4chan won't believe this, but I am going there with my wife. I can drag her wherever I need to. She'll just demand recompense later.

Also, Nagoya sounds interesting. I will check it out.
Thx

Also, shamelessly bumping in hopes of pumping /trv/ for more good info. This is my final bump.

In order to mitigate bumping, have a /trv/ relevant pic.

Why can't a futuristic train like this exist in real life ;_;

I think this is what you might see at the starship landing area connection to planetary transportation on the planets Trantor and Coruscant.

(3-time Japantravelfag here)

Maid cafes are overrated gimmicky shit. It's just the same dull, disaffected waitresses you'll find at any cafe on PLANET EARTH except zOMG THEY'RE WEARING FRENCH MAID COSTUMES and the food and drinks cost 50% more than they would in any regular Japanese cafe.

You'd be better served forcing your wife to wear a maid costume around the house and spanking her for not calling you 'Goshujinsama'.

>>35337

This guy is right. Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto are where all the whitey go. If you really want 'Japan' and not pre-packaged shopping, temples and high-tech gimmickry go to Hokkaido, or Kyushu or if you're really hardcore.. SHIKOKU.

There is not much culture to Nagoya. It was burned to the ground in the war so it is pretty much the epitome of bland Japanese industriousness. If you want to tour the Toyota factory or things like that, sure.
>> Anonymous
>>35569

People in Kyushu and Shikoku don't see foreign tourists much if ever, and they are surprisingly appreciative when you make the effort. I went to a matsuri in Shikoku a few years ago and everybody was like 'zOMG whitey come take your picture with us!' 'zOMG whitey come try our crazy festival food on a stick!' 'zOMG whitey come drink beer with us!'
>> Anonymous
>>35569Point taken on Maid Cafes... guess I just need to get the wife to wear the cat ears... I like your tips about avoiding Kyoto/Osaka... Tokyo is unavoidable, however... we will be staying with a family there, and whatnot....

>>35573Ok, so Nagoya doesn't sound like much fun.

>>35580That should be interesting.

Something new has come up in my googling. Kancho. How likely am I to get Kanchoed? What is proper retaliation to a konchoer? This is a concern to me... and for my wife.

Don't encourage them. Let's keep the run-of-the-mill tourists in Tokyo and Osaka.

Going to Kagoshima later this year to look up some friends, looking forward to the experience. I'm 6'6", so odd inquisitive looks are guaranteed down there.

>>35569
SHIKOKU FUCK YEAH!>>33764here, their beaches are beautiful. I wish I rented a car though, the trains there only go so far and are far and few in between.

>>35736
What's Kagoshima like? I've been wanting to see more of Kyushu ever since I was in Beppu and watched 5cm per second.

Get a rail pass. It will take you everywhere on fantastic bullet trains and special express trains for a low one-time deal. One round trip on the shinkansen will basically cover the cost pass and you can stll use it to go anywhere for free after that.

Check out Tokyo for a few days then go to Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Miyajima/Hiroshima, then down to Kyushu or Shikoku. Just check some travel guides/sites to see what each of these places ential. I've been living here for 4 years and travel around a lot but those are some of my favorite destinations. Going down to the islands of Kyushu or Shikoku will give you a good taste of the countryside after seeing some cities and historic sites. The further south you go the more rural ad wild it's going to get.

Whats up with Japanese tourists anyways? I've been to so many countries and I always see these tight packs of Japs taking pictures of everything.

Fuck, I mean I even seen Japs in Iraq taking pictures of everything. I think they are all plotting something.
