Anyone else read this book? I thought it was a really interesting read but I'm not too sure how relevant it is anymore considering it was written over 10 years ago(thoughts?). However, I'd still recommend it because it does give a candid (unless the author really embellished things) view of Japan's non-status quo peoples.Anyone know of any other good books about Japanese culture/history?I'm not taking this to /jp/, they'll just recommend some manga.
Yah; I read and enjoyed it a while ago. Couldn't tell ya how relevant it is - about all I/"we" tend to hear about Japanese culture is geeky stuff.
Irrelevant. This sort of thing died in the early-mid 90s.
*rises from grave*10 years ago? Does it mention me?
>>66539no, but it had a hilarious anecdote about a porn star nicknamed "Choco bon bon" because he was recognized by his uniquely dark ballsack.
