In 3 days I'm flying to Germany for a 5 week vacation (I know, short notice, I only found out myself a few days ago.) It's been 11 years since my last visit and I plan on leaving my laptop at home, so I thought I might ask before I go if anybody here knows some interesting places out of the tourist "mainstream" in or around Munich that would be worth visiting. Any recommendations would be welcome, though I'd prefer places within reach of the S/U-Bahn network. I do speak German so communication isn't a problem.
Thanks in advance!

self-owned.

S-Bahn is a suburban train, asshole, there's no way you can take it to any of the locations that guy listed.

You can travel between cities on the S-train. Just take the connecting trains at the end of the route. Takes forever, though.

Also, fuck those places that asshole listed. Prolly places crammed with gay bars and techno clubs he got from a list on his gay pride website.

you are the most stupid dumbass i ever argued on /trv/ with.

IT DOES NOT CONNECT.

Even if it did, it would be the most stupid thing to travel over 100km with a train that stops every 1 or 2 km or so.

You probably never been to germany.

To be fair, using the S-Bahn inbetween cities network does work pretty well in the Ruhrgebiet and surrounding areas (Düsseldorf), but that's a no-brainer pretty much. Maybe anon's confused.

well the ruhrgebiet is the ruhrgebiet, but Munich stands pretty much in the middle of nowhere aka Bayern/Bavaria, there is no bigger town near enough.

Munichfag here.
Dachau: Old Town. Concentration camp isn't that interesting... (S2)
Landsberg: Old Town. (Train)
Kloster Andechs (S5, Herrsching)
Other places aren't that interesting... if you like hiking, you can take the S7 into the Isar Valley, stop in Wolfratshausen, rent a bike and go back to Munich... it's nice there.
I also second Nuremberg and Regensburg. You can go anywhere you want in Bavaria by local train for about 20 EUR. Nördlingen is also very nice, some place that hasn't been bombed in WW2.
"Out of the mainstream" is difficult. Specify, please.

Y'all forgot the most important thing.
Red light districts.
Finally OP gets to kick that annoying virginity he's been carrying around for some decades now
