See "The Woman in Black" i think its at the fortune theatre.

Go to Westminster Cathedral, Big Ben, Tower of London etc.

I suppose the Tate modern if you are into that oh and the British Museum is good (The Library there is wonderful).

Take the tube to Camden - there's nowhere else quite like it.

From my experience:
Camden Town. The place is awesome. As soon as you get out of the tube station in the northern line you'll see why. Also, British Museum. If you're interested in history, you'll cum buckets. Also I climbed all 530 steps to get to the top of the dome in St. Paul's Cathedral. Tiring but rewarding.
Also don't even fucking bother with the changing of the guard at the Buckingham Palace, shit sux and it's full of tourists so you won't even SEE anything.

before you go, you should read up on London a bit more
that way you sort of more or less know about the city and where you would like to go.
i suggest you check out wikimapia and wikipedia
read up on the different neighborhoods and what you would find there, areas of interest etc.

This man is correct. When I went there 3 years ago, I was on a student exchange program, and they basically made me study a shitload of things about the history of London. I hated it when I was doing it, but I swear when I was actually there, enjoyed it even more because I KNEW what each place was, what had happened there, when it was built, etc. There's no need to study a lot like me, but still read a little.

Loads of free museums & galleries in London.
Galleries:
-Tate & Tate Modern Art Galleries
-National Gallery is superior imo.

Museums:
-Natural History (not so good tbh, loads of kids waiting to see the dinosaur stuff, but I now know how big a mammoth really is)
-Imperial War Museum, British Museum & Science Museum were fucking awesome, man! Especially Launchpad in the Science Museum (it's for kids but still cool)
Also, until recently I had never seen the Albert Memorial opposite the Royal Albert Hall. it blew me away.

Then there's the usual suspects I guess - Trafalgar Square (National Gallery's there too - goo see some Thomas Gainsborough!), Tower Bridge & the Tower of London, Houses of Parliament & Big Ben, Madame Tussauds (maybe - it was PACKED when I went there as a kid so...), Camden Town (beware niggers trying to sell you drugs outside the station. Also, you can spend almost a whole day there), St. Pauls Cathedral, catch one of the many theatre shows on...

I think that's about all I can think of atm. Last time I was there I did the following route:
Saw the Albert Memorial, walked across Hyde Park to Kensington Palace, then Kensington Gardens, then aaall the way to Marble Arch via the "Italian gardens" (sounds cool but it really isn't, lol). On the way from gardens-> Marble Arch, on the opposite side of the road, there's this weird wall made of giant pencils with puns & catchphrases etched into the side of them (stuff like: "N for Lope" {"envelope", hurr}), then caught the tube from Marble Arch to Lambeth (London eye stop).
From there we walked along the Thames, past the eye & houses of parliament, and nandos until we reached Tower Bridge & finally went home via Tower Bridge station. We stopped near the eye to watch an aussie magician, who was pretty funny :P

Phew, hope that gives you some places of interest anon. Anything else just ask & I'll try answer to the best of my knowledge!
