Going to Mexico, planned to drive from Mexico city to Cancun, is it safe?
Any recommendations on what to do in Mexico city?

stick to the toll roads, its pretty damn safe just watch out if you are ever in the northern part of Mexico.

- If you want to bribe a cop, ask if he wants a morsel (I forget the Spanish word).
- If you are stop by the cops, don't get freaked out if they draw their gun when they get out of their car; they often do that.
- Do not drive at night, that's when a lot of bad shit happens on the roads.

Don't go a single kph over the speed limit... if anything drive just below it. The corrupt cops will use any excuse they can to pull you over.

The Mexican cops will ask for a "fee/fine" if they want a bribe, you should'nt piss them off by offering one right away unless you know the native way of doing so.

North Mexico isn't that bad, the gangs are not going to go out of there way to kill random gringo tourists. If anything, North Mexico is a nicer tourist spot then the rest of Mexico, its pretty much still like the wild-west, traditional mexico, and they don't get many tourists, so it could be a place to check out.

Mexico City is an insane place, and its huge... there really isn't anything you can't do there.

Check out the bull-fighting ring at Plaza Mexico or the obvious Lucha Libre Mexican wrestling stuff if your into any of that or if your going with other people.

There also a Six-Flags park there too.

Also, don't go to Tepito unless you want to die.

As tempting as it may sound when you get to Cancun try your best not to drink your own weight in alcohol, many American and Canadian teens do this and then end up walking into cars/off cliffs. Just because you're on vacation doesn't mean you can ignore laws or courtesy. It really is a nightmare for Mexico's tourism board to have to lean up after these cases.

Hope you look poor...
