Alright /trv/ My friend invited me to goto Mexico with him on a whim. He is leaving June 6. There is no way for me to get a passport by June 6 but, I was thinking I could get it mailed to the residince in Mexico after it arrives. My Question is, can I enter Mexico without a passport?

Well, if Mexicans can get across the border without a passport, I don't think you have any problem will either.

Just stay away from any Mexican policemen unless your willing to pay out the ass for a bribe. Your going to stand out, so you might get harrassed by police.

Uhh...you've obviously never been to Mexico. It isn't North Korea. Wtf?

OP, a lot of places you can get in with just ID (drivers licence) and back out. Just don't try buying some ketamine and getting yourself arrested or anything.

No, but I've been to places in South America, and the police are corrupt as shit, and they will fuck with you and try to get a bribe from you if they think they can get you on something.

True, but unless you're visiting the slums of Rio then you'll have no problem. Hell, I've been to some of the slums in Rio and Montevideo but as long as you don't look like a tourist you won't get fucked with.

South America may not be the most perfect place on earth, but police don't really fuck with foreigners; governments want to promote tourism.

Mexico is very safe in many places, but it has it's bad spots - but who's planning on visiting any of those?

Another idiot that thinks all countries south of the border look exactly the same. Maybe when you stop making stupid generalizations you'll get treated with a bit more respect anywhere you go.

What the fuck are you talking about?

The barrier to go from Nogales, Arizona to Nogales, Sonora is a fucking turnstile. Osama bin fucking Laden could traipse through there.

OP Here:

I have a driver's license and everything that would be needed to get a passport but, the lady whom issues the applications said it would take longer than 10 weeks since it is peak traveling season. To expedite would take $600 right now. Also the only reason I ask is because I hear they passed a new law in January 2008 that requires a passport now in accordance with harsher immigration stance.

Mexican policemen are generally very helpful and leave you alone unless you're clearly violating a law, like a parking infraction or drinking in public, then you might have to bribe them. I wouldn't be forward about it, it will get you into worse trouble if they're actually honest.

Expect to pay more in some areas like museums or ruins if you can't pass as a Mexican national. Bring a student ID if you have one, that can often get you discounts with a little convincing.

You can get in without ID if you go by car/foot to mexico. but by plane or return back you cant cross.
