Hey guys!
For a graduation present, I was thinking of traveling the Silk Route. I've only barely scratched the surface as planning goes, but I'm wanting to follow the Istanbul->Iran->Afghanistan->Pakistan, or the China->Nepal->India->Pakistan route. I'm native to Pakistan, so I wanted to end my traveling there, spend a few weeks enjoying the sun and eats before getting back to the states and finding a job.
Could you guys possibly help me in giving advice on what the better route would be in terms of cash, relative safety, cultural experience, and ease of travel?
The route from Istanbul to Pakistan seems more interesting to me in terms of visiting places I've never been, experiencing cultures I'm only barely familiar with, and the fact that I could start traveling in Russia but well, being Pakistani does nothing to allay the terror of being perforated through Iran or Afghanistan (in spite of how awesome their food is) because bullets don't really discriminate between targets. Going through China I'm thinking would offer relative safety, but I'd be stumped at the language barrier through there and Nepal, in addition to anything else that could go wrong.
I haven't really traveled much, so I'm hoping to get some advice from people seasoned in traveling or who have been to the above places so I could possibly make this a trip to remember.
Thanks in advance!

I'd go choose the path
Turkey -> Iran -> some centralasianrepublic -> china

iran is a shithole, but at least there is rule of law - you won't get fucked just for being there, same goes for the central asian republics.

The insurgency going on might have something to do with it

I wouldn't bet on Turkey either, with all the stuff going on with PKK

nah, I'm sure it's ok - they are doing it the israeli way - fighting the war in the other country so nothing there gets damaged

Oh please, don't be so fucking naive. The PKK shit has been going on for the past twenty odd years. Besides, it's only in the southeast where it's even remotely a problem.

Turkey is safe and beautiful, go there now.

I second this path

central asian republics are ex-soviets who didn't/couldn't really do the turn-to-capitalist-mafia haven, it's safe there

They did actually, I bet you can hire a murderer for USD100. Not that it should be much of a problem for a simple tourist.

can I import the murderer? would I have to pay taxes if I'm just bringing one? 'cause they're expensive around here
