East-coaster here; specifically an NC-fag. I want very much to escape this horrible land of too much religion and not enough happenings, and so I've been thinking that when I graduate college I would like to move either to New York City or San Francisco. Which would Anon choose, from the perspective of an early twenties female with some experience in writing (copy-editing, etc.; no sci-fi novels or screenplays for me) and a complete set of brains? I'm quite clever, from what I hear, and equally charming when I want to be. I know I can't guarantee any kind of writing job and am willing to take such measures as are necessary to maintain other employment until I can dazzle someone with my prose. How much money should I plan on making in each city in order to live relatively comfortably (small but decent apartment, no excessive fanciness or frills), and what can I do to get into writing other than apply apply apply?

Well, you'll have more luck with writing in LA. Movies and television would probaly give you a higher chance of landing a job.

If you had to choose a city though, go for New York, though they are some of the most expensive cities to live in. You'll be struggling to live in those cities unless you bunk with someone else. What's your major? If you have technical writing experience, it gives you more options.
