RUSSIA Anonymous
Hey /trv/

I'm an Amerifag that will be visiting London by myself mostly for photography and whatnot, but also because I just want to see another country.

However, after London I am deciding whether or not to go Russia (St Petersburg in particular) for a week or two.

So, would it be worth it? How would I get treated if as an Amerifag in St. Petersburg? (and I'm white, btw).

Thanks

pic unrelated, its all i have on this comp

I hope you can afford it.

You will be treated with the apathy of a metropolitan and bourgeois city.

I believe you need a visa for Russia, and no it is not a credit card.

"white" won't cut it. Gotta be slav!
Russia is extremely fucking super-racist. Not quite Japan-racist but very nearly so.

You will stick out like a sore thumb being American. Pretend to be British or something, Putinist youths will mug you... I wish I was kidding. And for goodness' sake learn the language and culture before you go. Russia is the single most dangerous country in Europe and extremely, extremely expensive even if you budget carefully. I think it might have even overtaken Japan as the most expensive country.

It's extremely worthwhile if you know what you are doing but otherwise stay the fuck away until you do.

During the Empire it was petersburg, then Moscow since 1918 (because they were concerned they might lose petersburg to the whites and it was easier to organise)

Jesus Christ, seriously, the only interesting thing in russia for me was seeing the kremlin and the red square. Everything is extremely pressurising, people are more pissed off than a London morning in the tube, EXPENSIVE as fuck (and that was in 2003 or 2002 when I was there).

And to think that I would need a visa to get there.

Moscow is the most expensive, followed by London.

"All foreigners visiting Russia need a visa. Among citizens of former Soviet Republics only citizens of Georgia and Turkmenistan need a visa to enter Russia."

Apparently, Moscow is the highest. This report is just for cities, not the country in general. Also, the full report is only available to journalists apparently, so don't waste your time contacting them or searching for the full list.

Just to check - how much does a russian visa cost and how easy is to obtain one? I mean, subjective, not official stuff. Stupid embassy interviews and such.

It's just that I didn't need a visa to enter since I hold a Former sovier republic's citizenship, so I actually didn't ever think that Russia could impose strict visa guidelines. Personally, I feel that the country should let US and EU citizens enter freely, after all, some tourists are better than nothing.

No idea. This site may help: http://www.visatorussia.com/

If no one answers before business hours tomorrow, give the embassy/consulate a call and ask them directly.

The US basically does let EU citizens enter freely. It's called the Visa Waiver Program (VWP).

Either a troll or some Estonian still butthurt about the USSR. What a load of crap. The only truth in that post is that it's expensive as fuck in Moscow. No one's going to do shit to you because you're American, you might get some dirty looks at most. People aren't generally more racist there than anywhere else in Europe unless maybe you're a Chechen. And Moscow is safer than most large American and Western-European cities.

that's the thing, eastern europeans, me included, aren't really racist, we just "acknowledge" foreigners. russians have widespread neonazis, so they will probably not just acknowledge, but also bet the crap out of somebody whos not whitey.

the xenophobia you're talkin about isn't something bad, everybody loves wstern europeans or americans, espescially girls who would suck your american penis for a marriage visa

Protip: Most people aren't skinheads, and the chances of you being attacked by one are about the same as getting randomly shot in Detroit in the daytime. And don't sit here and pretend that other parts of Eastern Europe don't have skinheads.
