Hey /trv/,

I'm going to be emigrating to Brisbane, Australia in six months time. Going totally alone, and I'm sorta nervous. But that's another story.

Anywhoo, I just wondered if somebody could tell me a little about the city itself. I'm interested in unusual things, theme parks, cool grotty little bars, culture, yada yada yada. What are the *Top Five* things to see in Brisbane?

Also. What sort of temperature and weather can I expect there if I am to arrive in April?

Thanks!

The Gold Coast is a 40 min drive to the south and it's the theme park capital of the nation. It's a pretty popular destination for Brisbane people looking for some fun on the weekend. Great beaches too.

The Sunshine Coast is an hour drive north and that has a couple of theme parks too (including Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo). Has some great beaches too.

Brisbane's main entertainment district is Fortitude Valley (the Valley), you'll probably want to get a local to show you around.

Average temps in April (Autumn) are between 16 - 26 C. The summer is starting to cool down.

You might find more info on the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brisbane

You poor bastard. I've been spending 23 years trying to get out of this hole.

Also, we only have two seasons- summer and winter. You can expect temperatures around 35Celcius most of the time.

Once again- you poor bastard. Bring a book- it's going to be a long, hot, boring 6 months.

Op here,

thanks guys. Two different opinions there :P

I'll be living with my friend for a while who has lived there all his life, whilst I look for someplace to rent. So he'll probably show me around a little; but I like finding stuff on my own.

I'll look into this Fortitude Valley, cheers :D

also, second guy, why do you hate it so much? :(

i wouldn't suggest going in the river, it's loaded with bull sharks, as is the coast of central and northern australia. but brisbane has a really nice botanical garden and some good touristy places if that's what you're into.
