Because /n/ews is gone, I guess this topic best fits here, and that is: should gentrification be suppressed? Gentrification is the process in which land owners buy incredibly cheap pieces real estate and renovate it so it can increase in value. The problem that the communities raise over the issue is that low income families are being forced to move because the gentrification of a home raises it value, therefore the taxes on the property increase, and the rent increases which they cannot afford. Our real estate markets are now left in near ruin over the 2007 mortgage crisis as a result of largesse sub-prime lending. This is giving land owners an opportunity to rebuild the market as property values decrease; they can easily buy homes to flip, but there is risk: mortgages still maintain their rates as easy credit being pushed out of existence. Who would want to buy a house, where the mortgage is worth more than the property? But it seems if I want to fix a bathroom, or if I want to put a new roof because the one over my head is leaking, should I not have the right to do that? Yes, these things do increase property, value but what of propery rights?
