NJfag here - it's been one of my dreams to see the Northern Lights. Has anyone ever seen them? Where would be a good place to travel and stay for a bit to view them and how expensive could this trip be?

It's pretty common occurrence all over Scandinavia and I'd expect there are plenty of nights lit with them in Canada too. And Siberia, but who the fuck would want to go there.

N. Sweden, Finland, Norway and Canada/Alaska. If you are lucky you don't have to go even that far up north. I've seen amazing light as low as 60° N (in Finland). You should keep an eye on some sunwatching websites for activity reports and make your plans according to them.

Hope it helped a bit, sorry about the crappy english

Norway would be the ideal place that I would want to go see them. Anyone have an estimate of the price it would be to take a trip to Norway from the U.S. for like, a week?

Um... you know the magnetic north pole (not the true north) is where you want to be close to. You have to be REALLY far north in Europe to see the northern lights.

In the US you can actually see them pretty easily in Michigan.

Best place would probably be Nunavut. Wut

Also, Southern Scandinavia is as close as Michigan... Northern parts over 1000km closer. Checked Google Earth
