And both Persian and Kurdish (as well as Urdu, Pashto, Hindi and Bengali, conversely) are Indo-European languages. If you were only to count the Semitic languages as Middle Eastern, you'd be left with only Arabic and Hebrew.
Turkish, Persian and Kurdish are Middle Eastern languages in the same sense that Finnish is a Nordic one, despite being Uralic and not Indo-European like its neighbours.
