I want to learn Dutch so I can live in The Netherlands, because I rather like the country. However, I have two questions;

1) What is the fastest way to learn Dutch without living there?
2) If I went there whilst not being fluent in Dutch, how easy would it be to communicate? And how easily would a person pick up a language just by living around people who speak it constantly?

Thanks.

I don't know the fastest way to learn dutch, if you're not there yet, i would focus on grammar and vocabulary. Once you're there you won't have too much trouble to communicate since most people speak english quiet well.

I spent a few months in Amsterdam and everyone I met spoke English well.

You don't need to talk Dutch to live here, half the fucking country only speaks sandniggerstanese anyway.

This. The only time I've met people there who couldn't speak communicative English, were menial laborers who don't really interact with you anyway.

2nd best would be English.

I'm also trying to learn Dutch at the moment. Here are some sites I found rather useful:

2) It will be easy to communicate and nearly impossible to learn the language by living here. My stepmother would always start in her accented/broken Dutch and people would speak English back. Thus, she never learned.

I'm envious of every single Dutchman

They all seem so happy. The country is just so great.

I don't like my country at all.

>people would speak English back.

This makes me rage so hard. I have the same problem here in Finland.
Now when people think they are being helpful by talking to me in English I smile and say, "Anteeksi, en puhu englantia." We both know it's bullshit but they can't say shit. Goddamn I hate people.

I don't want to discourage you, but from what I've heard, Dutch is one of THE most difficult languages to learn (next to chinese and japanese). I'm Dutch and though I like the language, I don't care much for the grammar. I'd stick through it though, it's nice to be able to speak the language of the county your living in.

dt anyone?

lol what a load of bullshit. Dutch is not one of the hardest languages to learn, especially for ENGLISH speakers. Almost all the words are the same.

It's only what I heard.
I just imagine all the tones (: sch, ch, g, v, etc.) might be rather hard and awkward to master. Also, Dutch vocabulary is one the richest in the world, with more than 185.000 words.
I'm not saying I KNOW it's one the most difficult languages, I'm just saying that's what I heard and I could imagine it being true.

Dutch is very difficult to learn but not impossible. The down side is that once you learn it, you understand what the idiot dutchies are saying and realize what a bunch of morons they are.
