Virginia is a great place to live from what I've heard.

I live in west LA and previously Atlanta. Wonderful cities they are.

Do odd jobs while looking for a job as a psychologist in some institution or something. Use the Internet.

problem 1.) amherst sucks. buffalo sucks. anywhere in NY sucks except NYC, and even that sucks.

problem 2.) BA in psych is **COMPLETELY** useless. the only thing you can do with a BA in psych is go to school for something useful. chances are since you went to school for psych, you're too dim-witted to find a job without having some education/degree to help you sneak in..so...i guess kill yourself?

we have conscription, but you're exempted from it if you stay in a university, and bearing in mind the fact that I live in derka-derkastan, your country really fails in that aspect

It can happen here too, that you're extempted. But in that case they have to mess up long enough for you to actually be in university at the time they want to enroll you.

I already had my medical examination and all while I still was in high school - so no chance for that. The weekend after finishing school I had to show up at the barracks on the base I was assigned to.

Im sick of this stupid bullshit. Its all over /b/. The agenda for people hating on psych majors is clear. Its coming from anti-intellectual tech nerds. Anttiintellectual because to oppose the scientific study of psychology is to oppose the attempt to look at the mind using the scientific method.

Psych students are idiots to some degree, just like math students are or ___ students are. But we went through stat class, most of us went through biology/chemistry/etc.

Its kind of ironic that nerds bandy this antiintellectual Midwest nonsense, but they do.

So shut your fucking mouth.

NYC sucks? Really? Kill yourself.

get out of america.

The reason lots of folks claim you can't do shit with a BA in psych is because most place that would hire you for such things would over look you for people who have either a masters or doctorate in the field.

Also,>>20187is always sound advice. Things that you CAN do with a BA in psych do include things like the peace corps and teaching english in poor asian countries. That's what I'd do, personally. If you do plan on staying in the US, I'd really look in to getting a job as maybe like a Human Resources guy at some small company while you study for your Masters. As far as places to do that, NYC would be fine I imagine, though the cost of living tends to be a bit high. While some places, like Idaho and Colorado, are beautiful they're kind of out of the way and may not have many good universities.

You could always move to England and study, too. I bet that'd work out.

Good luck! Historically about 1 in 4 have been accepted but lately, and this year particularly, it's looking like 1 in 7 as the program slowly shrinks and interest in Japan spikes.

What do you see as far as future trends are concerned? Will there be an increased education requirement? Lower chances of being selected?
>> Anonymous
>>20441
They won't change the education requirement of a BA because ideally the program is meant for competitive individuals from (usually) good universities that participate for a couple years before they go back to school or into a "real" career. Also the job itself is usually quite easy so requiring anything beyond a BA would be silly.

JET is the most respected and almost always first choice of those wanting to teach in Japan so with added interest in working in Japan it will become even more competitive.

Still, more than simply one's credentials of university, grades, study abroad, etc. matter. I personally know someone from Columbia University that was rejected after the interview stage despite great credentials all around. Likely because he's Asian American (they prefer whitey) and he's not all that outgoing.
>> Anonymous
>>20448
Who here is outgoing? I think you all sit on 4chan all day.
>> Anonymous
I tried to move to a better city with a better job market when I finished college. Im-fucking-possible. You need money for at least four month's rent (finding a job isn't always easy), food, and any other bills.

So you tell yourself that you'll find a job locally to build up cash until then. Then shit always comes up to prevent you from saving the money to move. It pisses me off. I still want to move because this city I live in sucks to find jobs in, but I can't because I barely make enough to survive.

What helps is if you can find a job in the new city you want to move to before moving. That makes it a lot easier.
>> Anonymous
>>20449
First, making an interviewer think you're outgoing doesn't mean you actually are. Second, this isn't /b/, I bet a lot of people are pretty outgoing and only spend ~30mins a day on 4chan. But go ahead and believe everyone else is as miserable as you are if it makes you feel better.

Shut the hell up about not being able to get a job with a BA in psych. Many, many, many jobs simply want to see a BA in anything. Many CEO's don't even have an associate's degree. The career counseling department of your former uni is most likely very helpful. That's what they are there for.

You can make money in any American city, or (most) any city in the world. The mid coast-line of California has the most temperate climate in the US. San Diego, San Franscisco, and anything starting with Santa probably has nice weather. I love Santa Barbara.

lol keep on telling yourself that. People in high positions get there because of who they know and what they can do. If you're a talented guy, you can do anything you like.
