Krautfag here, i am considering traveling to San Jose, Califoria for the NVision party with a one week stay after the party.
As this would be me first travel into the USA, what are your suggestions for making my stay in your country enjoyable?

My questions, as i would travel on a thight budget, would be:
Where can i find an inexpensive hotel?
Which restaurant would you recommend me?
What is the US equivalents to Aldi? I know that Aldi opend some stores in the US, but if no Aldi is nearby, where to go?

Anon, please deliver!

Don't stay in San Jose. The Bay Area of California is a pretty ghetto everywhere (except Sunnyvale). If you can find a place just outside of there, do it.

Wal-Mart is super cheap, although it's basically what's ruining America. Things are generally low quality, and the staff is pretty un-helpful. Look for a Target, they're a little better as far as cleanliness and helpfulness goes. Prices are almost always MSRP, too.

What kind of retarded questions are these?!
You are in the fucking USA, to be specifically in Silicon Valley, an extremely densely populated area.
There are cheap 24/7 stores, fast food restaurants and motels everywhere.

I have never been in the US?
The fartest i went is Valencia in Spain.
Besides, i wouldnt tell you "Retarded questions" if you would visit Germany and asked the same, i would answer them.

And just for the curious what my answers would be:
1. You should try a youth hotel (Jugendherberge), they arnt fancy but pretty cheap.
2. If you are going to be in a bigger city, there are little restaurants all over the place, i would recommend a "Pommes Currywurst" for starters in German style fastfood. :)
3. If you dont like Aldi, try Lidl or PennyMarkt, real,- is a cheap place too. (They bought all WalMarts over here, BTW) Stay away from Tengelmann or Edeka if you are on a thight budget, where the first is realy expensive.
