Some maybe helpful tips according to my personal experiences: - Virtually anyone you call a nationalist in Germany will regard this as an insult (wouldn't you too?) - Almost people will aid you, if you ask kindly. - Almost any German under 35 is able to speak english, at least at a very basic level, since it is usually taught as the first foreign language. Most people don't use it regularily and are therefore hesitant. Speak slowly. - If you attempt to speak german, be aware that people usually will get amused, but this also makes conversation easier. - The usual exceptions to very dumb people apply. - Try to see stuff apart from the usual sites. The famous stuff like Neuschwanstein, Hofbräuhaus, etc. is IMO ripoff.
