I knew some German university students who were at my college(Portland State, in Oregon). They said the things that were different in America were:
- People don't discuss politics or religion at dinner - Movies are, ironically, more censored here. Hollywood films have more explicit versions they show overseas than in the US. They thought the US was going to be this totally crazy place, but they found it was rather more uptight.
As for other stuff I can think of: - Ethnic food. From what I understand, they have lots of Turkish and Lebanese dudes in Germany, so they're familiar with that. And Chinese is everywhere. But they probably don't have Mexican(good stuff, not Taco Bell), Indian, Thai, Vietnamese, or Cajun. - Honestly the US varies quite a bit by where you are, so I can't give you a clear answer. Most of the US has nice or at least interesting natural scenery, so try going to a national park or something. - Air shows if you have them nearby. Some military bases also have museums or tours. - Museums in general?
There really isn't much that's in America that isn't in other western countries.
