New York State Anonymous
Everyone knows NYC, but can Amerikaners tell me about New York state? Worth visiting?

Dude, it's totally beautiful. Don't miss it. The drive to Cooperstown is A+.

New York has both one of the most interesting cities in the Western Hemisphere and some beautiful mountain scenery.

Pennsylvania's also very nice, extremely underrated.

It is scenic and nice but if you are one who can only find big cities entertaining and interesting then it is quite dull and boring.

Long Island should be sawed off, filled with nuclear bombs, and pushed into North Korea. Niagara Falls (the actual waterfall) is fucking amazing, but the American town is a ghetto and the other side of the border is a tourist trap. Sort of like a wetter version of Nogales AZ/Sonora. Driving through most of Upstate New York will make you say "Drive faster, I hear banjo music."

Honestly, it depends where you go and what kind of attitude you go in with. The East End is rather nice, especially the Montauk area.

inb4 montauk monster.

Some parts are worth visiting, like Canandaigua if you like historical buildings and gardens.

My step-dad, who is French and lives in Paris, wants to move to upstate NY and own land lol. non-NYC New York is pretty low key, very suburban...lots of nice areas and people.

I don't recall that many vineyards around here. Quite a few orchards but not vineyards.

My brother has a farm Upstate, sort of by Ithaca. I take the train up from NYC, and the scenery is amazing. The tracks follow the Hudson River Valley almost the entire way, and there are rolling hills and mountains, and often sailboats on the river.

Ithaca is cute. Not a lot going on there aside from hippies and Cornell University. Cool cafes, and surprisingly lots of Asians (I think they come for the Cornell)

Syracuse (where I get off the train) is a shit show. There's absolutely nothing to do there. Nice architecture downtown, but the rest of the city looks like a desolate wasteland/ghost town.

The area around the Fingerlakes is absolutely amazing. Vineyards and farmland. Beautiful scenery. Cute cottage houses in the hills surrounding the lakes.

TL;DR: lots of country living. Not much to do. But if you need a break from the city, Upstate = fuck yeah. Especially in the summer.

I used to go to Lake George as a kid and go on the ferries. And then Catskill Game Farm but they closed that awesomeness down.

As a kid I used to go to Catskill Game Farm too and once went to Carson City & Indian Village. The only thing worth doing in the Lake George area is Great Escape. There is a fort and boat rides but they aren't worth shit. The town is semi-built up from the tourism.
