My dream is to be able to travel the world without restriction of time or money.

I figure I'd need around 5-10 years to do this. I'd like to be able to stay in one place I'm particularly fond of for 1-24 weeks before moving on.

Money is the hard part, of course. I'd like to stay in a decent hotel or rent a decent place for most of the time. I'd like to eat in a restaurant a few times a week and enjoy various activities that might require money (within moderation, of course). I'd also like to have the option of hopping on a plane and going anywhere up to ten times a year.

I estimate I would need a monthly income of around 10-20,000 (US), a yearly income of 100-200,000, or a lump account of 1-2 million.

Are my estimates pretty accurate or am I way off?

I think you overestimated quite a bit. I would guess that comfortable hotels across the world would average ~200 a night to be safe (much cheaper and much more expensive depending on where you are). That'd be 73k in a year. 500 a month would be plenty of food for one person (so 6k a year), and you could have a misc expense of, say, 250 a month, which is plenty (3k a year). Finally, a travel expense of 1k a month.

That would be 94k a year total. So for five years youd need 470k, seven years 658k, and 940k for ten years. A million is plenty and .5-1 would probably still be comfortable. If you want "total freedom" as you say you'll just need to amass as much as you possibly can.

If you are willing to find cheaper rooming (hostels, whatever), then the cost would go down dramatically and you could easily spend ten years traveling comfortably on 500k.

haha wtf do you need to stay in a $200 hotel for a thing like this....finding somewhere not rat/pest infested/and not smelling like shit to stay for $50-70 or less a night is going to be absolutely no problem in 95% of the cities/places in the world

Misc expense of 250?

Personally i'd need/want about 100 a day

All you guys are overestimating. 200 dollars a day would buy you some very luxurious hotel rooms. Hostels only cost like 10 a day and you could get a decently comfortable one anywhere for 50. I know I could survive abroad without too much discomfort on 1000 a month. I could be quite comfortable at 2000 a month. 10,000 a month will probably allow to have close to the "total freedom" you mentioned.

You should hurry.
After 10 years world may become untravelable by 98% of population.
