Its a pretty nice part of town - I live right between UPenn and USP. See http://www.ucityphila.org/ for more on the neighborhood.

Oh, but to follow up on this, an important point: See http://www.ucityphila.org/_files/pdfs/VGmap05.pdf

DO NOT TRAVEL WEST OF THE SHADED AREA.
DO NOT TRAVEL NORTH OF THE SHADED AREA.
DO NOT TRAVEL SOUTH OF THE SHADED AREA (at least until you cross the river to the east, then feel free to head on south)

You will notice, immediately, if you accidently do so - it descends into the ghetto real quick-like. The neighborhood itself, however, is very much patrolled. I've lived here a few years, feel quite safe, have experienced no crime.

I grew up in philadelphia.
I Can give you one good hint of advice if you do go to school there.
Stay the fuck within a good distance of your school. The moment you leave the sheltered environment of the collages it gets real ghetto REAL quick

>DO NOT TRAVEL WEST OF THE SHADED AREA.

Bull. There are a bunch of good restaurants on 52nd Street. And once you get out to 69th or so there are the Korean grocery stores.

> DO NOT TRAVEL SOUTH OF THE SHADED AREA

I like to go to the Path Mark on Gray's Ferry Avenue because the people there are so friendly.

> DO NOT TRAVEL NORTH OF THE SHADED AREA.

DO NOT TRAVEL NORTH OF THE SHADED AREA.

Have fun getting shot in West Philadelphia. Yeah, there are some good Korean places around 69th St. Guess what - that isn't Philadelphia, its Upper Darby. Philadelphia ends at 63rd.

Have fun getting shot in SW Philadelphia. Last time I was on Grey's Ferry Ave (had to pick up a package from Fedex) there was some dude strolling down the street with a trenchcoat and a baseball bat. Given that there are grocery stores at 40th and Walnut, 41st and Walnut, and 42nd and Walnut (if you count the Indian place)...

Stop being such a pussy, I have to go up to 8th and Lehigh all the time and have yet to have anything remotely bad happen to me. Just don't be stupid and go exploring in the middle of the night.

Philly really isn't as bad as you're trying to make it out to be
