The Upper Peninsula in Michigan is severely overrated. There are some tourist areas, but most of it's pretty remote for this part of the country. I guarantee you'll be the only Australian there. Just don't go there in the winter.

Pic related, that was taken at Pictured Rocks Nat'l Lakeshore near Munising, MI.

You up here too?

Anyway STAY AWAY. STAY AWAY. Don't come to the Upper Peninsula under any circumstance, during any time of the year. Somewhere that's both remote and bearable would be Colorado or Wyoming, stay away.

I've been thinking about Colorado. Working a ranch. Is it possible to take a road trip across America and not get shot in the fucking face? Not to be a drag but your dollar is low atm and I'm thinking of taking advantage of it and going to America instead of Europe.

There are a lot of problems with middle America. Criminal Danger is not one of them.

Plz highlight. I need to know what to expect.

Also, if the car thing doesn't work out can you train it across like a hobo still? Always wanted to do that.

You will not get shot in Colorado unless you piss off some nigger on colfax.

Shootings really don't happen in the midwest that much (Iowa tripfag here). When the shootings do go down, most the time it is a family/close relations issue (not common though)

As for hobo-ing, it is a rather dead sport, what with the modern police state in birth here, train security on freight is getting more eyes than it used to. Hell Amtrak is pretty fucking cheap here, though it doesn't go many places.

This makes me sad :( I don't wanna Amtrak. I wanna backpack and get off whenever I want. THis includes jumping from a moving train should I so desire.

How about wages? Is it possible for a foriegner to get random jobs and live/travel on this monies?

>>14138
Technically no, but we have many many Mexican citizens who live/work here illegally. They also come here illegally, so to do the same you'd pretty much have to sneak in unnoticed.

Working on a ranch in Colorado is probably not gonna happen. The easiest thing for you to do in Colorado would probably be to wait for winter and go through the legal bits so you can work at a ski resort.

Shit. So I have to bring all my money with me. So there's no hope for a white man to mingle with the beaners and work the same jobs? THey'd probably think I was a fed.

Anyone wanna sponsor me? I have engineering degrees.
>> Anonymous
>>14145THey'd probably think I was a fed.

No, more like nobody would hire a white guy with an engineering degree because they'd assume he'd get sick of hard work in about 2 days and quit. Nothing to do with fear of the Feds.

Depending on where you are, you could work random banquet/bartending/construction jobs that pay cash. You could definitely work some of the construction work the Mexicans do, but don't expect to get paid much. You could clear $8/hr cash with some effort.

If you look white and middle class and can get in the country on a tourist visa, no one outside of the airport will fuck with you about your immigration status, unless you end up in jail.

Grayhound buses may be a better alternative than trains. Public transportation within cities is generally crap, but there are a few exceptions. In a lot of cities, even major ones, your only option without a car is public buses, where you will travel with ghetto people and the homeless. Every city has taxis, but they are not cheap.

Sonny, let me tell you something: For 3 months a year I work on farms in the Australian summer. You got nothing over there to compare with that. I'll be alright.

>>14151
So how much for a four cylinder in your American dollars? Seems like the road trip is the best way to go so I guess I'll need a car.
>> Anonymous
>>14152
you could get a working automobile for less than $2,000. prices for cars on ebay are around what you'll generally pay for a car.
>> Anonymous
>>14153
I could get most of that back too, eh, after I've sold it? Probably a little less with the extra klms(miles in Ameriglish).
>> Anonymous
>>14154

indeed. in most states you probably aren't legally required to register it until 30 days after you bought it

>>14156
See I need to know things like this. This will save me money. If I can I could buy and sell a car every 30 days.

I'm not keeping a travel blog, though. I fucking hate receiving emails from freinds who detail every fucking little aspect of their trip. I don't care that you bought an ice-cream for 5 rupees.
