JET: Great English teaching job or greatest English teaching job?

– Tax free salary of ~$36,000
– 20 days paid vacation on top of national holidays
– Working in a Japanese (junior) high school as opposed to a language school
– Free or highly subsidized apartment
– Tickets to and from Japan paid for
– Orientation at 5 star hotel in Tokyo
– Absolutely no weekends, many have half days Friday
– Respect (as far as English teaching jobs go)
>> Anonymous
I only see negative traits. Besides the paid tickets and apartment.

I laugh that it offers 'respect' and you have no weekends. Enjoy your free time.

Not.

No work on weekends means easy traveling within Japan; how can that not be a good thing? As for respect, I'm not trying to say people will treat you like a big deal or something (they won't), it's simply a big step up from being a bottom of the barrel eikaiwa teacher.

Negatives:

Most JET's are assholes.

I keep hearing and I would like to hear examples of the Douchebaggery of JETS.

You said that you have no weekends, dumbass.

All depends on where you are teaching. If you're in Tokyo it'll suck, if you're out in the country then it'll probably good.

Haven't done it, but I plan on it.

Absolutely no work on weekends. It's a fucking high school, how could there be work on Sunday? Think about it.

Great except that you work in expensive ass Japan.

And if you're a typical weeaboofag, enjoy living in the most expensive cities and wasting your money on mangas and whatever you weeaboofags buy.

1. You did not say no work on weekends, you just said no weekends.

2. Not every country is the same as the United States when it comes to vacation days and days off. I've never been to or lived in Japan, so how the fuck would I know?

You do realize where you are, right?

Fuck, this place is shit now. Go back to /b/.

>– 20 days paid vacation
Is this good to Americans?
>salary of ~$36,000
This is shit.
>– Tax free
lol'd
>– Respect (as far as English teaching jobs go)
From who? Certainly not the Japanese.

How does one become a JET? I would think there's a lot of competition, what with weeaboos and all. Do you need anything other than a college degree?
>> Anonymous
>>40250
no, in fact, you don't even need a degree in English or Education. Sage for JET

20 days vacation plus around 15 national holidays plus sick days. Much better than the average in the US. Also, $36,000 tax free with a free apartment is great compared to other ENGLISH TEACHING JOBS. Of course it sucks compared to being a lawyer, etc.

Around one in eight applicants were accepted this year. It's competitive but doable, especially if you actually research what they want and try to achieve it (experience in Japan, teaching English, etc.)

Except there IS income tax in Japan so it's not tax free. Also the US must be really depressing if 20 days vacation is decent.

Your tax status in Japan depends largely on your nationality, the length of your stay and your occupation in Japan. If you do not qualify for exemption from income and or inhabitant taxes in Japan, the terms and conditions of employment on the JET Programme allow for a higher gross salary to cover Japanese tax payments.

"Also the US must be really depressing if 20 days vacation is decent"

Yes, 20 days vacation is very decent, and that fact is depressing. I'm lucky to get a week, and it's usually the last week of the year, as in the week before new years. And yes, I work full time in construction.

Sorry to hear that. Here in France, 5 weeks vacation is the minimum by law.

>>40272
What the fuck? I gotta move to fucking France. And not even cause of that. Hella hot girls when I was in Paris...

Yeah, I get 17 days off (paid) my first year, and I think like 20 afterwards, which is apparently pretty decent. But since you have to "earn" days off, it still kinds sucks...

No wonder your economy is fucked and society overrun with sand-niggers and refugees.

I get 3 weeks and even my boss (entry level executive) only gets 5 weeks.

I know that if I were a refugee, I'd flee to the country that offers the most vacation time.
