Hey /trv/ heading to foreign country Anonymous
hey /trv/ Im heading to Japan next month but I have a serious problem; I dont have a drivers license, only a passport. Now Im not going to freakin drive in japan, but I dont want to carry my passport around for ID checks in a foreign country. I lived in NY since freshmen of NYU so I really didn't need a license and all the bars in NY never fucking check.

Is there anyway I can get some kind of identification card with birthdate and etc?

I give you asian tits.

You might have to take your passport. The US has no ID Card system yet (THANK GOD). Or you could pass your driving test really quickly...

thanks anon, lets hope I can do this in 2 weeks.

You can get a state ID from the DMV. They look just like a drivers license, and usually cost less than $10. Go to your state's DMV website and look for information.

A US-state issued drivers license isn't valid ID in most foreign countries. In Japan, you're required to carry your passport at all times. I don't know how strictly enforced it is, but it's worth knowing.

If you're talking about ID checks in bars, they don't check in Japan. Maybe if you look 9 years old, but even still they'll probably be too afraid of having to talk to you in English to do anything.

There is no way around it really, you have to carry your passport with you wherever you go.

I've traveled a lot in Japan and no one has never asked for it, but it's better to be safe than sorry.
>> svenska
if the us is anything like canada, you can just get a plain old gov-issue id that looks much like a driver's license. I had one before I had a driver's license.

now that op's question has been answered
wow, who's that?

he was asking about identification in Japan.

Also, OP controversely edited out the giant man-eating bush that delicate creature has growing betwixt her thighs.

When I was living in Japan, I only carried around a photocopy of my passport, and that was adequate for when I was stopped by police and such (which is often for foreigners).
However, if your only concern is drinking, I have never EVER been carded in Japan anytime I ordered drinks or went into bars.
Most of them either don't bother if you look old enough (having a beard helps here), or do not want to awkwardly deal with foreigners. If you play ignorant tourist guy and pretend not to know any Japanese, they will never ask or else give up trying.

It's NSFW as it is actually. OK, not porn and technically acceptable probably, but I wouldn't want my boss or colleagues to see that on my screen.

How long will you be in Japan?

I've been living here 6 months and the only time I've ever needed an ID for anything is in government offices, and I've always just used my alien registration card.

You won't ever be carded for anything.

oh, one more thing:

If you're here short-term, you're required by law to keep your passport on you for identification. I doubt it would ever matter, but if you want to stay totally legal you might just have to keep it anyway.

Where have you been living in Japland?

If you can speak Jap very well, there is a 50/50 chance nowadays. Usually it's strictly Jap only but walk-in places are that desperate because things ain't so bubbly in Japan right now. But I strongly suggest you don't go to soapland, as the women there are at the end of the line. Most are older and/or there because they're in debt to the yaks and will have no way out.

But I "heard" in another thread lol, best bet is to go online for the hotel "delivery health" (shower+BJ) places. E-mail or call and ask if "gaijin is ok". Most will say no but some will be ok with it.

With today's exchange rate you could be showering and getting blown by a hot and young J-girl for around $150. Difference is a lot of girls at these places are part-timers and pretty much normal girls. Crazy thing is no bait and switch here. The actual girl you picked shows up. But all this is just what I heard lol.

This is just one of many such establishments.

There are hundreds just in Tokyo alone.

***Whatever you do, do not break the rules. That means no drugs and no coercing them to fuck. They got fools on speed-dial in case you try to get stupid.

hotels are required by law to take down your passport information, so if you can't provide one (or proof that you reside in japan as a semi-permanent resident, via a driver's license, an alien registration card, or some other photo id with your japanese address) they're gonna have a bit of trouble.

is the whole no gaijin thing a fear of aids and stuff or just a general dislike of non asians, I have been to an asian whorehouse in australia(mostly korean girls) where only a few of the girls were available to me, but my asian friend could choose any of them. The guy runnin the place said something about them not liking european guys cause they are 'bigger' but I dont buy that explanation

Yeah, like this guy says, it's very unlikely you're going to be speaking to any policemen unless you do something shady. Besides, if they ever approach you just bust out with machine-gun English. It's the kryptonite to pretty much 99.9% of the Japanese populace.

Sorta off topic question. What are the rules for a 20yo male buying liquor if I lived in the U.S. but was studying in Japan?

>>20351

how fucking dumb do you have to be

let's do a thought experiment

how many americans know the legal drinking age in japan?
similarly now, how many japanese people do you think know the legal drinking age in the us?
therefore, how do you think an alcohol vendor would know you're not old enough in the US?

finally, WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU EXPECT US LAWS TO BE VALID IN A FOREIGN FUCKING COUNTRY!??!

tl;dr answer: you're a fucking dumbass, and if you're 20 you can buy alcohol in japan no matter your nationality
