Hey /trv/ You people seem like the ones to ask. I'm planning on making the largest road trip in my life coming up in June. I'm heading from Tennessee up to Maine, and having never done really big car trips, what kind of things can I expect (ie. what should I bring, How long will it take, I am looking at getting a motel, etc?) Also what's Maine like in June and finally what kind of money would be needed for a trip like that?

What the fuck is wrong with you? Unless you're willing to stick to the TINY portion of the state served by the Atmrak Downeaster and bus services, you do, in fact, need a car.

OP here, anyway I could take a train and then rent a car once I get up there, or would that be to expensive as compared with just driving up there.

Also, I was told by a friend you have to be 25 to rent a car and 21 to rent a motel, I'm 19 so this could cause complications no?

Bring 100 dollars per day, even if you dont use it, just have it available to you, you're on vacation.

Fill a nice big jug with your local water to drink in the car, rest stop water is weak.

1100 is probably too far for one days drive. Rest somewhere along the way.

Consider sleeping all day and begining your drive at night. On a trip that long you'll save a lot of time on traffic that way. (lots of truckers in the Northeast)

Also, why are you going and for how long.

I'm going up there to meet someone up there, I was going to go with a buddy, but he kind of dropped out, so now it just looks like it will be me. Plan is to get up there stay maybe a day or 2, and than drive back.

Mainer Here.

You need a car. Its really spread out and the only city busses are in Portland and Lewiston. Don't visit Lewiston. If you stay along the coast it is very beautiful but at the same time really expensive. If you are feeling outdoorsy take a trip to the western part in the mountains and hike. I suggest Tumbledown Mountain because there is a state park near the base you can stay at.

As far as the coast, anything south of Portland is Expensive and crowded, north of it is just expensive untill you get pass Bar Harbor...Then there is nothing touristy, just untouched scenery. It all depends on what you want to do. There is alot to do but it is mostly outdoorsy stuff.

Portland is historic and has some cool museums and the Old Port. The Old Port is just blocks upon blocks of bars and is deffinetly worth checking out.

Pretty much...if you stay along coast bring alot of money. The coast gets really...really fucking crowded with cocks from New Jersey and Massachussettes. If you go inland it is alot cheaper, less yuppies and the locals are friendly hicks.

I should also mention before you hit Maine there is a liquor store right on the highway in New Hampshire. Hit that shit up. Cheap, tax free booze!
