I'm an American traveling to England and then France in June. I'm considering taking rechargable batteries for my camera, so I don't run out and have to buy more while over there. Is this a good idea or bad, and why?

Are you like...the poorest person on Earth or something? If yes: take them with you.

err... why would it be bad?

just make sure you have an adapter. and that it will then work.
If not, buy the charger when there.

And what kind of camera doesnt come with its own battery these days?

something wrong with efficiency?

Not really important one way or the other. a hundred grams of extra weight vs spending an extra euro or whatever. Why don't you flip a coin or something?

Digital cameras drain the fuck out of alkaline batteries. Stick to rechargeables.

ive had bad luck getting my american battery recharger to work in 220v countries... perhaps it is just my shitty recharger, even thought it says it accepts that voltage.

keep that in mind if you are going to rely on your recharger, perhaps it would be a good idea to buy one in country

As an Amerifag living in England ...

Be sure you buy both a UK adaptor as well as a W Europe adapter for the plug in. Also - be sure the charger is dual voltage. Stuff in England is 220 (USA is 110) so you'll totally blow your shit up.
