Going to the middle east again soon, visiting Israel this time.

I hear nothing but negativity about the place though. All girls being absolute shallow whores, more Amerikkkana than you can shake a stick at, people being assholes in general..

Putting the ongoing conflict to one side for a minute, give me some experiences about Israel and its people please.

Israelis are like people anywhere else - there's some you'll vibe well with and others you won't. Make sure you get a duplicate passport though, if you're from one of those countries that issue them. Otherwise, you won't be able to get into any Arab country if you have an Israeli visa in your passport.

israfag here,

Israel desperately tries to became the US and it seems to work because the mainstream here is redneck as hell and generally what you heard about ppl here being jerks is true.

The people in Tel-Aviv are exactly like what you heard about. People in the north are friendlier and more laid back in general, but people are people, so most girls WILL be absolute shallow amerikkakkan whores just like in every other place in the world.
I suggest Haifa because it's a moderately sane town with several good places to hang out in. You won't be partying all night long, but you won't be running into the terrible manners Israelis are infamous for.

Cool. I try not to listen to much to others anyway, travel experiences are always personal. Like, how everyone always says Amsterdam is great - I go there and shit was mediocre for such a talked about place.

One more question, winter temperature.. do I need to bring my pea coat or will a good woollen blazer do? I'll be there for 5-6 months.

Try the kibbutzim, you can volunteer to work for board and food, theirs programs I think. Haifa is a must, you can check out the desert, the Negev... and this old city Jericho or something or other...it's a city that is like 2000 years old, crazy old towers! People fire dancing on the back streets, but don't walk around those at night alone. If you can get a 4x4 truck (has to be or you get stuck) go around the desert a bit, theirs old blown out tanks and jeeps scattered around. Mt Sinai is beautiful. One more thing, the cities are different in one way. The malls and cafes are all filled with 20 year old kids in uniforms with guns, but they're all smiling. I don't really know how to explain, but you feel safe. When I see an American soldier on the bus next to me, I'm nervous.

Israel can get cold, especially at night. It does snow in Jerusalem! Bring a coat, and a sweater for the colder nights . Oh another thing, if you can, go rafting on the Jordan river, their are tours, it's cool, and you can see parts of Jordan to. I forgot the name but theirs a lake their that you can drink from. You climb up a small creek up to a small waterfall that gushes fresh, clean water. Hey check out the Dead sea, make sure you bring sandals, the sand is like frying pan I swear.

Country was built on the blood of innocent palestinian children who never (prior to the 1948 occupation) hurt a jew in their life. What do you expect?

It's like any other western country. Be an asshole and get beat up. Be polite and get a warm greeting. I've been there twice, and people were awsome.
Funny thing is that people got even friendlier when I told them I was german. But thaty was probably to forcefully eliminate the tension.

As for touring, visit a kibbutz and the dead sea. Go to Tel Aviv if you must, but it's just a typical big city, and Eilat I've never been to, but was told its a generic tourist city. If you're looking for special places, go for the dead sea, a kibbutz and the Negev.

Oh oh oh and also the Bahai Gardens in Haifa. It's like the only interesting temple there. I don't count the golden dome or whatever it's called because it's lame and only muslims are allowed. The western wall is a wall. Keep out of the ancient city in Jerusalem (it's a specific part of the city) in general, as it's a gathering place for the vermin of every major religion.

israfag here... just wanted to verify rudeness of people
if you're looking for nightlife try to land a nature party..people are usually friendlier there unlike the Tel-Aviv area. I'd also check out BGU area for parties and nightlife

Go to Tel Aviv because the people there are cool and the girls are amazingly hot. Just like any other city on this planet - there are assholes. Big surprise.
