The United States of Europe.
When do you think it will happen and do you think it SHOULD happen at all?

Britfag here.

no, the arrangement is fine as it is. Plus, in 100 years time the world will have free borders, so there's no point.
>> Anonymous
it should, but it won't, there'll be always some percentage of conservative morons who will oppose "taking over" of their country.
Damn you cruel world!

I personally really like this idea. All this complaining about sovereignty sounds like childish nationalistic pap.

What's the point? We already have common laws in some areas, a common currency (for the most part), free borders, we're militarily protected by one another
>> Anonymous
Not trying to attack, but what would the difference be? Mutual armies, mutual currency, mutual law; isn't this basically the same arrangement the US states have (without the divide of culture/language)?

Then all is left to do is to make it official. You said it yourself, what difference does it make?
It seems like in the minds of millions the symbolism would be unacceptable, even though it's pretty much already happened.

NATO, EURO, FREE BORDERS. Nuff said.

We don't have a common foreign policy. This is a big issue. Like during the Iraq war, Germany and Francy strongly opposed the invasion, while the UK went ahead with the US into Iraq. Also, the EU doesn't have a common military. As such individual countries can have widely varying equipment, ranks, etc. etc.

I think these areas are pretty important to a lot of people, which is why there is a lot of debate.

Too much nationalism, it would never work in state form.

Oh and immigration. Different countries have different immigration laws. Like people from French Guyana can immigrate into France more easily than people from other places, but in a united states of Europe, that wouldn't really work as a lot of former colonial powers have special relations with their former colonies.

>FREE BORDERS
It's called Schengen.

Read it and weep, bitch!

Maybe that's because French Guyana is the same country as France. It's like people from Puerto Rico "immigrating" to the United States.
