New Zealand rains... Anonymous
Hey /trv/. For lack of a better place to ask I have a question that has been answered by quite a few people, but I wanna hear your opinions. For those of you who don't know New Zealand weather patterns it is often said we can have four seasons in a day. Which is true. But What is quite unique is the type of rain we get. It often comes in torrential downpours and can rain like that for through out the day. /trv/ does New Zealand have unique rain?

I think pretty much any tropical area has that kind of rain. I first experienced it when I visited Florida. It fucking HURTS when those giant fucking drops fall on you.

Hi OP, you're right in that we have a unique climate.. other parts of the world that share this kind of rain are the southern coast of Australia, Chilean coast and at a guess, coastal BC/Oregan/Washington states in the winter. Being exposed to the roaring 40's helps as well as being in a perfect zone for strong maritime troughs of low pressure in the mid-lattitudes.

Depends on where in NZ you live, and what channel you watch (toni on tv3 is hotter), but I would say for the most part, no - it's pretty much the same as any other weather system on Earth, nothing that special.

The only time I've seen really crazy weather was like 10 years ago driving up the Desert Road, it was like thunder/sunny/thunder/sunny for hours, kinda freaked me out, but it was awesome.

Yeah, it depends on what channel you watch. I also prefer channel 3 to channel 1.

I live in the middle of the USA and occasionally we'll have torrential downpours too, it's painful to be outside during them, but at the same time is pretty cool since it doesn't happen all the time.

Torrential downpours happen pretty much everywhere. Nothing special.

New Zealand is not tropical. Far from it.

Arizonafag here. Here in the Sonora Desert, it barely rains, but when it does it makes up for lost time with a vengeance. If you've ever seen old video footage of white cops spraying black protestors with water hoses, picture that, but vertically and everyone getting wet and/or people speeding and crashing without their headlights on, because they are idiots, or women. The End.

Floridafag reporting in.
We have some pretty fucked up weather.
I've seen daily thunderstorms you can set a watch to, torrential rain on one side of a street nothing on the other, hail the size of golf balls, double rainbows (gay), twin waterspouts....
And more lightning than you can believe.

Houston gets this all of the time. It happens when 105 F 100% humididiy air cools down to 90 F 95% humidity.
