I'm thinking about moving from Colorado to Washington State. If I move to the Seattle area what parts should I avoid because they're ghetto and have a high crime rate?
What's the job situation in Washington state? Is it worse in the eastern part of the state?
Any recommendations for places to live along the coast where one can eke out a decent living?

I don't know about the eastern part of the state but it depends on your income level. because of all the damn Californians. But I would avoid most of Tacoma.

Small towns like Yelm have cheap housing and such, though the gas prices are still atrocious. Yelm is close to Olympia, not too far from Tacoma(AkA The shithole of Washington.) and Seattle isn't too far.

I live in the area. Eastside is the safest bet. Bellevue, Issaquah, Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, North Bend, Bothell... Generally stay away from west Seattle, south Seattle, and the urbanish areas directly north of Seattle. Once you get further north though, it's fine.

Tacoma and surrounding areas are awful so avoid that, unless you are white trash, in which case you should definitely go there.

I usually reserve this sentiment for the Californians

No you're not. Just drive from Spokane to Seattle. There is absolutely nothing in between.

Damn. You're right. I forgot about everything east of the mountains because nobody wants to live there.

Where you choose to live in Washington is really dependent upon what you do for a living, and how much you enjoy things like traffic, income, fresh air, meth, live music, or Mexicans.

WTF, more parameters

Avoid Tacoma at all costs. Also avoid Bellingham.

Basically, your best bet is from Downtown Seattle, north to Everett, and East to the mountains. Don't go much south of I-90, and you can't go wrong, assuming you don't go north of Everett.
