Sup /trv/,

So I'm off to college next year and I'm considering majoring in geography because it's awesome and I love it. But realistically, what careers could I possibly pursue after school?

Thanks amigos

I suppose teaching's always a possibility.

Well, at least you're not in liberal arts. If you were, I would be advising you to enjoy your unemployment.

Geography can be associated with a number of other fields.

The first thing that comes to mind is academia. It's not as intense as some of the other sciences when it comes to research, but there is still some demand for scholars interested in forming new theories about things like Central Place, Location etc...

You could probably find a job with an Urban Development department helping to plan development of a particular community in order to ensure sustainability.

Industrial Consultation is another option. Essentially, you help firms locate ideal locations in which to expand their operations or take advantage of local resources.

Your college should have tons of info on good geography jobs.

OP, consider going into Geophysics. It's basically the same thing(well, no stuff about humans, but lots about rocks). And instead of struggling to find a job(which you will), you work for an oil company making 70k a year starting.

Um, Geography IS liberal arts. Although I'm guessing you're one of those computer science fags that thinks because he knows some code he's set for 100k+ a year, starting salary of course. Either that or a shit-eating engineer.
