Jesus, how much money do you have?

OP here,

enough cash to travel for about 15 months ... travel by land (no planes) and stay in budget hotels, you can go a long way.

Enjoy spending half an hour in each of their airports!

how fucking much?

>>how fucking much?

seriously, some people need to get out of their parent's basement.

allow $50 a day living expenses @ 30 days a month. $1500. include extra for travel costs. $300. another $200 for incidentals. that's $2000 a month.

most savvy travelers can do it less, without feeling uncomfortable.

asia is cheaper, so is sth africa and the middle east. however, that's offset by europe, which can be more expensive.

traveling by land is a fraction of the price of plane tickets.

lunches are usually cheaper than dinners, which means eat big in the morning and light at night.

travel light, dont buy stupid souvenirs, get good insurance.

15 months @ $2000 = $30,000 ... i plan on doing it for about $5000 less.

thanks for proving that while 4chan is cool, you people know nothing outside hentai porn.

borobudor is sweet as. I was there a couple of weeks ago

my plan is to work my way east, starting in asia. that includes south to indonesia.

will probably spend at least a month in india alone ... from there, continue through the middle east (pakistan, iran, saudi arabia, etc), south to africa, then back north into europe ... europe will be 3-5 months ... i have friends there and can stay cheap.

make the jump to north america, canada and the states, down to mexico and into south america.

the journey will probably finish in the carribean, after i've gone down to chile and back up through brazil.

taking my time, i'm allowing 15 months. of course, there's no hurry ... so if i get stuck in pattaya for a few weeks, or goa, or sri lanka, or mexico ... then i'm not worried.

i'll probably stop and do my padi diving licences along the way ... i've got a few little projects up my sleeve.

i'm still looking for people to post interesting places they've been.

Indofag here. Good idea on going to Borobudur. Not that many tourists and IIRC, the surrounding countryside is still rural. While you're at it, you might like to visit Yogyakarta a few KMs south to see the Sultan's Palace (Keraton in Javanese).

If you go to Bali, like most tourists do, avoid Kuta and the other beaches south of the island and head inland towards Ubud. Beautiful unspoilt countryside there and not as many tourists. If you can ride a motorcycle, hire one and discover the island.

Jakarta is way to fucking crowded for tourism, IMHO. I should know, I'm from there. There are some nice Colonial era buildings in the Old Town, but you shouldn't stay for more than a couple of days there.

Tons of cheap shit in Cambodia/Vietnam. Check out Angkor Wat, its pretty sexy.

op here, thanks for the advice about indonesia ... i'll go through jakarta, but i'll be heading to other places. mostly non-touristy stuff ... won't stay in bali for long either, cause i'm sure it's just like boracay and other places - full of fat, lazy foreigners.

>>18741

i've been to siem reap and angkor wat ... yes, it's a fucking awesome place. i'll be going through there again on my way to thailand.

keep the info coming ... preferably off the beaten track.

op here,

thanks for the info on indonesia. java is gonna be great, but i'll wont spend much time in jakarta and bali. too touristy!!

and i've been to angkor wat ... you're right, it's a great place ... i'll probably go back again, on my way between vietnam and thailand.

keep the info coming, thanks /trv/

Afraid I can't help much with suggesting places to go, but I'm a wee bit interested in how you're going to do it. You've already said by land, so I'm guessing a lot of trains, but how would you make your way from different countries (and staying in them for some weeks)? Would you need Visas, or is a passport just sufficient?

if you stick to 3rd and 2nd world countries i bet you can do this for cheap. That being said, you gotta go to Chili and Argentina.... its so beautiful there

are you going to visit hungary in europe?

wtf...there's heaps of tourists in Borobudur, but it's still nice, as is Jogya (given that you'll probably fly into Jogya, and drive out to Borobudur...)

Kuta is full of aussies getting drunk. Ubud has heaps of tourists, but they're all european. You're right though, it's alot better than Kuta. It actually has culture.

There's not a whole lot to do in Jakarta...Old Town's nice, but still...

I spent two months in Indo, and got back two weeks ago...I fucking miss it.

60 weeks for 80 countries is not enough time, especially if you want to do things like stay in India for a month . You'll start feeling like your not really getting your full worth and get pissed off that you cant stay at places you really like. And ALOT of your time will be consumed by no fun, cramped airplanes, buses and such because you'd be travelling every fucking 4th day. Don't do it! I would either extend your trip or reduce the amount of places you want to go to (better). Something more realistic like a 2 weeks per place (30 countries). If you get bored of somewhere, you can bounce and stay more at other places.

Also if your going to get your diving licence, do it in warm water that you dont need any sort of suit to do. Far more enjoyable. Don't come to Canada, 'home of some of the best diving in the world' unless you want to get an extra drysuit cert and freeze off your hands and feet while they insist you start with a wetsuit >_<. Also budget about $500 dollars for everything if you need to wear glasses. (take off 100 or 200 if you don't)

I suggest Malta & Gozo for sure, you can take in lots of beautiful views in 2-3 days. It's on an island though, so you're best bet is to take a ship from Sicily, which itself would take a few days.
>> Anonymous
i'm in pakistan for work right now. you may want to head up to chitral and then tirich mir by jeep. best you don't trek it cause that's dangerous and tour guides are expensive
>> Anonymous
op here,

hey anons, thanks for all the comments.

yes, 90% of the traveling will be done by bus and train. trains are preferred. there are a lot of ferries that cross the water parts. but you'd be surprised how few ferries are required.

i will go to chile and argentina, they're on the list. hungary too, of course!

i'll be going to pakistan, but won't be spending too much time there. just passing through on the way to tehran.

i know i said 80 countries in 60 weeks, but it's highly likely that the trip will last longer ... and you're exactly right, i'd probably spend a month (or 2) in places like india. i could end up in dharamsala for two weeks. but the benefit of india is that it's cheap ... so i can stay a while without hurting the budget.

so i don't see myself spending all my time in trains and busses. many trips will be short, between cities, a few days here and there ... i'll be taking rest days in between, so that i don't burn out.

there's not many places i won't be going. ;o)
