/trv/,

I'll be going on a road trip from St Louis to Albuquerque, NM and on over to the Grand Canyon/Hoover Dam area. Anything "must see" along the way?

Which road are you taking?

OP Here:
From St Louis we'll be taking US-44, then US-40 straight to Albuquerque. We're going to visit the very large array on our way to the Grand Canyon.

Not really worth visiting.
Mars Hill Observatory in Flagstaff is more interesting as is Meteor Crafter, AZ.
Plus the VLA is not on the way for you
Its a long drive south on 25 out of your way
Take a left at Albuquerque

Awesome. We were trying to find an observatory. So the VLA isn't worth going out of the way for?

I think it is, but I'm a huge astronomy nerd.

as a holder of degrees in both astronomy and physics from that area of the country and having visited all of those sites i can tell you for certain that Mars Hill is both much more historic and interesting than the VLA, whats more if you happen upon the VLA when it is in high res mode (config D)
it is even less impressive. its just some moderately sized dishes with a shitty museum. If you go there during a wet summer the place is mad with hummingbirds, which is cool.

Do NOT, do NOT see Roswell.
IT IS A HICK TOWN AND SHIT MUSEUM, EVEN IF JUST VISITING FOR LOLS.

remember to take the right turn, or else you might end up in the Black Forest.

If you go the the VLA don't take I-25. Take the side roads. Those roads are fun to go on and it's just really beautiful.
