I do like trains (esp. in Japan - pictured)cause they shit on the trains where I'm from (ausfalia).

I've spent a few full-days just riding different trainlines throught snow country.

The only downside is you pass through some pretty decrept areas of Japan.

I love train travel. And yes, Japan has been my favorite. I've been on JR East, West, Shikoku, and Kyushu.

Anyone recommend a good train trip to take from germany? I might be going there on holiday later this year and I wouldn't mind spending a few days on a train seeing sights.

Get an interrail ticket, go to Switzerland, and take train trips on the narrow gauge railways across the alps. The views are amazing.

The only epic train ride I did was really the only one you ever need to do
From London to Moscow then the trans Siberian to vladivostok, then I backtracked a little to get to Beijing then flying back home.
The trip was great, but I also never want to spend andother overnight trip in a train again.

Wow. If not for the hiragana on the sign, I could have easily mistaken that for some village in Russia - single track, rusty transformer (is it?) in the background... okay, maybe the wood boards are a little too clean.

Other vivid memories from Russian trains, now that I'm at it:
- sealed windows in summer (with a stamp "closed for winter" - I'm not kidding)
- cockroaches (especially on overnight trips)
- fscking smokers!
- freezing cold electrical trains with wooden seats in the morning...
- bubble gum stuck everywhere it can possibly stick
