Whos been there? I really want to visit it. it seems like a pretty sick country, with its viking heritage, 0 pollution due to geothermal energy or whatever, awesome scenery, nordic women, etc.

Awesome transportation system is awesome.

I've heard it's actually a really, really nice place to visit.

Check my post lol. I lived there for about 5 years as a child. I went to private school there so I had to take the public transportation which is really nice compared to here in the US.

Everything is beautiful including the cities which are not big.

The biggest problem is the money you will be spending. The dollar is about twice the Kronur which will mean any money you bring will lower in value.

A good thing about Iceland is that a lot of people speak English about as well if not better than hispanics which means if you get completely lost you won't be fucked.

I was about to ask if they speak english, I heard speaking or learning icelandic is the hardest language in the world.
>> Anonymous
>>2201
Yes it is. About 200,000 people speak it so don't worry. It's not so much the words that fuck people over but the pronunciation. Like my other post states I'll be going there in July and June.

I heard the stuff in shops is really expensive. Is that true?

harder than english?

Yes, prepare to spend lots on food too. One thing I realized when I moved to America is that I could purchase about twice the amount.

Don't worry though. You can still eat at places like McDonalds and Subway. I don't remember a Wendy's or Burgerking.

Also everyone calls soda and pop coke

Definitely. That is just personal opinion though. I learned English through television, movies, and Pokemon.

I thought Icelanders can read a bit Icelandic written in the 11th century...is this true?

Lies. Transportation system sucks compared to any developed country.

>>2230
There are a couple of BKs there now. And no, "coke" is not a generic term for soda.

>>2257
Yeah it's true.

Did you or do you live there? Everyone I know called all dark pop coke, besides that there was sprite/7up and Fanta. I can tell you for a fact that the Icelandic transportation is MUCH better than the shit we have here in Minnesota.

Honestly, don't even bother trying to learn any native phrases in an effort to accommodate the locals if you go. It'll only get you disappointed looks and admonishment when you're outed as an Amerikkkan fraud.

Icelandic can't be worse than arabic or french.

It just can't. Iceland's people must be crazy.

French, no. Arabic, maybe. It's all about how you learn a language. I speak Icelandic but learning Japanese is something I would have the hardest fucking time with.

Good thing someone understands. Only very few can do it right if they weren't brought up Icelandic. I myself lack the skill to beatbox even on the simplest level because I speak a little differently.

japanese is easy. the grammar is ridiculously simple.

Amerifag here. I can definitely agree with this. Getting the pronunciation down has taken up probably half of the last two years I've been studying Icelandic. It's a pain in the ass, but now that I can pronounce almost everything right the first time I say them it makes things a lot easier.

As for Icelandic grammar, it is extremely excessive (probably about 24 different ways to say each and every noun) but once you get the pattern down for how the words are conjugated and the different groups they can be put into, it isn't as bad.

It's a hard language, but keep in mind that children are still able to speak it.

Speaking is probably easier than reading it. I want to be able to read the damn stuff so I can become more than a weeaboo.
