Sup /trv/,

My dad spontaneously asked me 3 places where I'd want to go to the most in the whole world and I just couldn't decide. Now this isn't the subject at hand, but it is related.

How is Japan? I know about their modern culture with all the anime and related stuff, but if you set that aside, is it an interesting country to visit? I'm speaking of travelling to a major city such as Tokyo or Osaka, and perhaps travelling a bit out of town to see famous spots and such.

I haven't been to Japan myself, but I expect that Kyoto looks very nice. Lot of relics and temples left over from the feudal ages and such.

For more modern historical value, you could visit Hiroshima. I think there's a monument or something there to nuclear non-proliferation.

btw OP, Japan is notoriously racist, probably a remnant of how isolated they were before Perry forced them to open up.

I'm not sure how much they really openly express their xenophobia though since I figure that the Japanese are generally raised to be extremely polite.

I've been to Japan. The food is awesome (even non-Japanese food seems a lot fresher), the people are very polite (I know they have that nationalism about them, but it's not really evident in how they conduct themselves in daily life. Or maybe it's just because Japan loves America), there are great sights to see in the city, but the real good stuff is the temples, pagodas, shrines, etc. Shopping is great at smaller markets or downtown in big districts (best electronics district in the world. Plus, the USD is still strong there (and pretty much everywhere but Europe).

Best trip of my life!

Plus, the travel is really efficient. Subways are fast and there are always several trains on the tracks (they do get a bit cramped though or you could take a cab or (as I recommend) just walk around and enjoy the city. For areas outside the city, they have a great train system.
