sup /trv/

Some friends and I are going to California this summer, anaheim/orange county area.

We have a day on our trip for which nothing is yet planned, what do you think we should do?

Medieval Times, fuck yeah

Orange County, ugh...why? So lifeless and stale there. But ok, hit Disneyland and check out this pretty tasty ice cream/yogurt spot called Golden Spoon. That, at least is reason enough to go that cheesy community.

Drive north to LA, visit Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles on Pico. Dress smartly, in pastel polo shirts and tan slacks. Ask for the organic greens and mayonnaise on the side.

knott's berry farm and Disnye land

Knott's sucks. It's only worth a couple of hours' time. Though there's a rock shop and a good knife shop in there. And funnel cake.

Drive along Pacific Coast Highway and visit Laguna Beach and shit. There's some trails to hike on, and plenty of beaches. My favorite beach in the county is Sunset Beach just because it's so often empty and parking is free. There's a lot of good parks and hiking trails in Orange County, read the parks department website. Doheny is another good beach and the grunion will be running in the summer (fish come on the beach at night to spawn, it's weird). Basically almost any beach between Seal Beach and San Clemente is good.

There's a bigass mall in Costa Mesa. Also, TBN's Crystal Cathedral is there and you should vandalize it or something. Across the freeway from the mall is a Mitsuwa marketplace, good place for snacks or lunch, and there's a Japanese bookstore in it if you're a weeaboo. And since you're on 4chan, you probably are. Speaking of which, Anime Expo is in LA in July.

go to disney land. if that's not your thing then go enjoy a day in malibu(there will probably be crowds). or you can just mob around downtown LA for the afternoon.

I burned my tongue on the soup we were forced to eat without utensils. God that was an awesome fucking thing to do.

I've been living in Anaheim/OC for my entire life. I know the area well. Do not come here.

But if you must, here a few suggestions. Google them. maps.google.com is your friend
South Coast Plaza (Expensive high-end shopping) in Costa Mesa. The big ass mall 26737 was referring to.
Camelot Golfland Arcade in Anaheim. Lots of annoying kids and teens though because they have pizza and golf and go karts and kiddie shit and attracts a rowdy asshole teen crowd on saturday night. I used to go there a lot when I was a huge DDR fag.
Downtown Disney is a mall next to Disneyland with a house of blues. The shopping sucks but there's a great view of the fireworks they have almost every night at 9:30PM or so. You don't need to pay admission for Disneyland just for its mall though.

Food:
All the best tasting and affordable food places are in drab strip malls.
Cha Thai in Orange for Thai.
Jamillah Garden in Tustin for Chinese, curry. This one's in an industrial/office place.
Greek Garden Grill in Orange. A gyro + regular soft drink is $9.10 but that gyro is fucking xbox huge.
In the same plaza as Greek Garden Grill is a cafe called Kaffa. They close early (6:30PM, 5PM on Sat) and on sunday they're closed for the day.

California Wok in Costa Mesa, one block away from Mitsuwa Marketplace. Get the Singapore Rice Noodles.

Kinokuniya, a bigger Japanese bookstore, is in another part of Costa Mesa. Diagonally across the street is a Book Off. For other Japanese-related shit Mitsuwa is better.

When everything's in Spanish and you start to wonder if you absentmindedly drove into Mexico, you're actually in Santa Ana and you should keep on fucking driving. You'll probably drive through there on the way to something else.

>the OC

Don't call it that.

Felix's in Orange is probably my favorite restaurant down there. It's Caribbean/cuban/spanish, pretty cheap and awesome.

Taps in Brea has pretty good beers brewed on-site and a good happy hour...$3.25 pints last I was there. It's much more expensive at night, and the restaurant is pretty expensive too...

OC pretty much sucks.>>26737hits the nail on the head though; most things that are interesting or unique are sometimes a little drab and hard to find. I lived there for pretty much my whole life and moved to SF about three years ago...I don't miss it much. You can avoid the cookie cutter aspect of it if you try...but it's be easy to end up at the mall then getting drinks at TGIF or having some chain sushi or something...

Crap I meant>>27772hits the nail on the head. The other poster has good advice. I kind of like Knott's though, especially because during the week it can be pretty empty.

yeah, lived in Orange County my whole life and it really does suck. It's incredibly boring and the beaches are awful because their either overcrowded or polluted. Not really a beach person anyways.

There is nothing to really see as far as nature goes, everything is brown and dead and there are either gross palm trees or scrub bushes, or perfectly manicured fake planters.

I guess Laguna Beach is a place everyone visits, it's this really pretentious little "art village". Huntington Beach can be alright to walk around in if you've never been. As aforementioned, South Coast Plaza is a pretty impressive (if you think high end boutiques and lots of asians are impressive)shopping mall.

The Irvine Spectrum is also a huge shopping destination, it's outdoors and it's gigantic so there are a lot of people there especially fri. nights. I used to work there at a little toy store called Child's Play. It's pretty entertaining to people watch there because everyone is so ridiculously done up it's like a big competition. Also, middle-aged metrosexual "macho" men and cougars, and HIPSTERS, and obnoxious scene tweens, and can't forget the bros and hoes.

tl;dr

ORANGE COUNTY SUCKS ASS

This is true, if you don't eat at In-n-Out at least four times while you're in California and their food doesn't make you weep manly tears, you should just go die. It is the only true burger.
