Enjoy people hating you.

Nah they don't hate you if they don't see you hanging on a korean girl. You should hit the main palace.. I dunno what are you into. You gotta give me more than that. Seeing Seoul at night from Namsan Tower is pretty sweet.

I've never been to Korea, but I know alot of soldiers that have been stationed there.

I hear Koreans drive like total fucking retards. Horrificly incompentant to the point that they make right turns into, and under the treads of tanks on road marches. Their entire extended family in their sub-compact doesn't keep them from doing this.

I hear the cool Korean dudes wear these fucking ridiculous "Speed-Racer" jumpsuits to the clubs. White-nagahide shit with patches.

I hear the sex is cheap, varied, and... interesting.

Most Koreans don't speak english, except for the little towns around the US military bases. Also, Koreans are rabidly anti-american, outside of those little towns right outside the bases.

Also, Fan Death.

I've seen a fair number of Korean tv shows, and there's often references to America or english-speaking or some character will be going to America or have an American friend.... if they hate Americans so much, why all these American references on their tv? Just curious.

OP here, are the gonna stare the crap out of me because I look different?

In Seoul? Unlikely. If it happens, shoot 'em a nice big smile back.

I think you should go to the coast, steal a ship, get a crew, and pirate for a few years.

Those are supposed to be joke characters. You're supposed to be laughing at them because they're stupid and American.

Korean's aren't anti-American at all, just pro-Korea. The only people that some koreans actually hate are the Chinese and the Japanese. And most of those are the older folks, who tend to love americans.

And yeah you'll get some stares on the subway but its not a big deal. and nearly ALL Koreans speak English, it just varies to what degree, and if they feel comfortable speaking it. I've never once seen a "speed racer" type jumpsuit. prostitution is available, but you don't really know about it unless you know where to go.

Koreans drive great.. smaller towns don't even have stop lights, just yellow caution lights at intersections. They drive fast and irregular but I've never seen even one accident.

I agree with you that Koreans are friendly to Americans and all that, but they are batshit crazy drivers. They run red lights all the time and if they turn on their blinker to merge you better let them in, otherwise they're going to hit you. Things are the worst in Seoul but in any large city it's pretty bad. If you get in an accident you can just pay off a cop though.

OP, I would go to the markets like nam dae mun or if you want cheap electronics and pirated games/modded systems go to yong san. If you're into history got to deok su gung palace and the Seoul Museum of History. Also, just for landmarks I would go to the North Seoul Tower, the olympic stadium, and the 63 building on yeo ui do island.

Pic related, it's deok su gung.

how they treat you depends allot on what your doing there and if your with a korean girl (and for what reason). if yout just a tourist your just a tourist, if your a soilder they will not be happy about you, if your an english teacher your a broke ass bumb.

Eat dog like the locals do.

If your friendly Koreans will be friendly to you. If your shy most Koreans will be shy around you. Some people will stare, especially older folks, but their just curious. Most can understand some English but are fearful when a foreign approaches them, having mostly read, wrote, and listened to English without much speaking.

Insa-dong is pretty cool if your into touristy style culture. Jung-no is nearby and you can see a nice palace and such. Try Korean food. It's cheap and absolutely delicious (if you like somewhat spicy). Public transit is dirt cheap and subways, buses, and taxi's are everywhere.

Might want to watch out for those riots if you're in Seoul.

Combat Police are no joke.

2nd this, pretty much hits it on the nail on everything you should do. Went to Seoul a couple years ago for a week and had a blast. All signs are in English so it is easy to get around on the Subways. I didn't get any backlash for being an American. Downtown Seoul is fairly polluted so beware of the heavy smog.

If you get bored, you can go downtown to jump on a supertrain for $40-$80 and go anywhere in South Korea in a few hours.

To add, go check out Olympic Park for an hour. Lotte World is a joke compared to Six Flags. Techno-Mart with all the floors of stores albeit overpriced. I didn't get time to go check out the DMC but if I went back that's where I would go first.

The food is amazing (try bulgogi) if you're into Korean food, Sujo is super cheap too.

If you're into shopping, Seoul is awesome. Everything is setup in districts so if you want to shop for clothes, you head on down to Namdaemun Market. Electronics, Yongsan. 2nd hand stuff, Hwanghak-dong. When you go to these districts you'll notice that shops or even entire floors sell one particular type of items. If you want video games, you'll find a row of stores. Want video projectors? You'll find 8 A/V companies lined next to each other.

Yeah I noticed that. I wonder why it came to be that way? It doesn't seem very much to the benefit of the individual shopkeepers.
