Maybe look into renting a bike for getting around, assuming you're staying around the downtown area.

Do you have a job lined up? The job market there is really shitty.

Not really. It's a cool city. Only tourists use umbrellas, fyi, or women with hairdos. You can just walk around and find things to do. Japanese Garden is nice, but boring. Chinese Garden isn't as nice and is more boring (both cost money to get into). The zoo is ok. Just take the Max everywhere, or a bus. I like eating at Kell's Irish Pub because they have the best Shepherd's Pie, but there's tons of good places to eat. Stop by the Saturday Market (open Saturday and Sunday). Try to avoid psychotic homeless people... they are especially bad in Portland and they WILL beat the shit out of you.

If you're a weeaboo you can go the Uwajimaya in nearby Beaverton. They have a Kinokuniya bookstore too.

If you're one of those post-weeaboos who tries to pass off being a weeaboo as cool in that sort of asian hip-hop Giant Robot sort of way, go downtown and stop by Compound Gallery and get some japanese art & design magazines. Keep them around your place to impress your new friends.

That's why I carry an umbrella around, to make threatening gestures which frighten away the psychotic homeless people. I never open the umbrella, even when it's raining.

That reminds me, I need to head over to /k and ask where to buy a good solid umbrella. Because sooner or later I'm gonna run into the psychotic homeless person who won't be scared off by threatening umbrella-gestures.

I thought Cold Steel made a sword umbrella, but it appears I'm mistaken.

Here, have a nigh-unbreakable cane instead.

Not true, Portland receives more rain per annum than Seattle. Seattle is just cloudier.

Back to OP's question, don't come here unless you have a job lined up. The only thing worse than our women is our economy.

BTW, ask me anything, I'm from Eugene, but go to PDX almost weekly.

Avoid NE area, really shitty lots of white trash and gang bangers. Also don't go around the Burnside bridge at night lol.
