Florida!

yeah i love in FL and that would not be cool i would want to pay more fro gas then see us fuck it up like that
>> Anonymous
They're actually going to build the platforms CLOSER to the shore! Right on top of that black man! OH NOES! BIG OIL AND THE REPUBLICANS HATE TEH BLACK MENS!
>> Anonymous
I live in Florida, and would'nt mind this at all.

It'd make rooms on the water front cheaper, and there would be high-paying EMT jobs on the oil rigs. Exactly what I want to do, instead of driving a meat wagon around niggertown, I can be chillin on an oil rig doing jackshit. Shit would be SO cash.

Go find some other beach to fucking loiter on, yankee faggots, theres OIL in them thar shores.
>> Anonymous
>>49923
That's no black man, just a man covered in the oil that spilled from that rig
>> Anonymous
The oil platforms would be so far out to shore that they would be small specs on the horizon and you'd see a couple of twinkling lights at night. It doesn't bother me when I go to Galveston and you'll learn to live with it.
>> Anonymous
>>49978
I think they're pretty awesome actually. I was out in the Gulf off of Louisiana and there were countless hundreds of rigs all across the horizon, and it was dusk so all the lights were on, it was really neat.

What you'll actually see.

How could Florida be against this? You get money off of the royalties and gas gets cheaper.

Because people in Florida are ignorant jackasses that let their 13 year old daughter fuckin swallow fistfuls of asprin because somebody said a mean thing to her on MySpace so now they call 911 and interrupt my fucking lunch for the fuckin 100th time to go drive over and drive little Jennifer and i gotta baby talk the little bitch and try to get her to swallow some active mud, well yeah

Anyways, people in florida are mostly northerners who come down here for the nice beaches and warm weather. They move from nasty industrial rust belt hellholes and are allergic to anything like OIL or RIGS being set up anywhere in the state.

You know how much oil is underneath the Everglades? Doesn't matter, cause shit is still going to be an useless, foetid swamp asshole forever because people here want it that way.

Remember democrats, let this be a lesson to you, the other half of 4chan that are not communists, are usually republicans. And not the I'm in it for Jesus and the children Midwest republicans, but the really quiet kind on the eastern and western sea board states that vote for war, that live and work amongst you, that sits there and listens to you're god awful praise for Obama, while he envisions hammering your skull in with a smile.

Pic probably related.

Nice job with that elementary school caliber writing. Funny how it takes rocket scientists to make rockets, and we all know science has a blatantly liberal bias.

Also 40 hour week, 8 hour day, minimum wage, workplace safety standards, environmental protection (i.e. no more dumping toxic waste in the local drinking water, etc.) vs. corporate monopoly/plutocracy, obviously the former will destroy america and the world.

I find it hilarious that you actually think conservatives would ever build a space ark.

Also have fun with being grouped in with the most ignorant reactionary scum ever to crawl out of a dysfunctional trust fund family. I'll be over here being grouped in with hippies and pussy-assed draft dodgers. LOL POLITIX

"Thanks to Earth's curvature, these operations can stay out of sight. Rep. John Peterson, R-Pa., proposes new drilling, but at least 50 miles offshore, well past the 12-miles beyond which the horizon hides oil equipment from the eyes of surfers and beachcombers."

>They move from nasty industrial rust belt hellholes and are allergic to anything like OIL or RIGS being set up anywhere in the state.

Uh...so because they've seen the results of fossil fuel digging/drilling and tried to escape it they're morons for trying to prevent it from happening again?

YEah, pretty much. Florida is full of retirees that don't work, and just want to die someplace hot as balls and pretty. They don't care about jobs, or industry here, they don't want a job.

But fuck them, I DO.

And French Canadians that come down from Quebec...
>> Anonymous
>>50125

So wait. They're selfish assholes for trying to prevent proven environmental destruction in their chosen habitat after a lifetime of productive work, and you're awesome because the only fucking job you can get is on an oil rig?

Go become a doctor or something for Christ's sake. Or a nurse. We need more nurses.

Oil platforms, when properly maintained and managed, are actually great for wherever you plop them down at because they create an artificial reef.

I live in Florida and I honestly don't care. I'd actually prefer to have someone drill oil. Cheaper gas.

Yeah, and stars give the solar energy needed for life, until they explode, which would be a global catastrophe.

Doesn't mean we wouldn't harness the energy of the sun.
>> Anonymous
>>50223

The sun isn't going to explode in the next hundred million years.

An oil rig could fuck up and ruin part of a coastline in the next five years.
>> Anonymous
>>50431
Yeah, but the sun can also give you cancer and heat stroke. It also causes blindness if you look into it.

Nobody on an offshore rig sits around doing nothing. There are EMTs but that skill is secondary to their primary jobs. Usually roughnecks or roustabouts.

Shifts are 12/12 per day every day that you are out. By the time you shower and eat after your shift you pretty much go to bed and start over the next day.

The last time I worked offshore I took 4 books with me. I was out six weeks and managed to get about a third of the way through To Kill a Mockingbird and didn't even open the other three.
>> Anonymous
>>50431

Name me a single coastline that has ever been fucked up by an oil rig (other than aesthetically). I think you're confusing them for oil tankers which can most definitely fuck up a coastline.

22 oil platforms were demolished in Hurricane Andrew. Except for all the splinters the coastline was fine.
>> Anonymous
How do all of the other countries that drill for oil manage not to ruin their environment, what with all of this rampant environmental damage caused by drilling?
