Is it hard to obtain a residence permit (i.e. "green card") to live and work in Australia?
I'm graduating this summer and am considering moving there for a year or two to work and have some fun.

apply for residence using your diploma. There's a whole scheme for skill points and whatnot.

Simplest way to enter.

maybe because inland is for the most part an inhospitable desert

OKAY,

If you're from Europe. You can get into Australia really easy.

If you're Asian, forget it.
If you're black, forget it.
If you're Muslim, definately forget it.

If you're an American. We'll let you in but we won't make you feel comfortable.

Not OP, but would you be more welcoming if I'm an American from Hawaii and don't fit any of the typical amerikkkan stereotypes?

The whole eastern quarter is fine by any standards. That's the part that contains everything from tropical jungles to snowfields. It's only when you cross the Great Dividing Range that you're fucked.

IMO we don't have any large inland cities because we have no need for them. Why would anyone settle inland when we've literally got tens of thousands of km's of uninhabited coastline?

tl;dr
Cities with the CBD within a KM of the beach > cities in the middle of nowhere.

He's trolling, isn't it obvious?

Most americans I've met (mostly at university) seemed to enjoy themselves. I actually knew a shy gay guy from Hawaii (he had been living in Aus for a decade or so iirc) at my old job. It was pretty funny, he was incredibly fit and always had chicks throwing themselves at him but he always turned them down.

I was reading up on Hawaii and how you were colonised by the mainlanders, and even have an active secessionist movement, so Hawaiians are pretty gg to me

The way the state governments have been allowing unfettered sprawl, we'll be needing them very shortly. Next decade or so.

Yes it's difficult. It is, however, far easier than getting into other countries.
