OP, you have basically three choices here:
Student Visa - Apply to a school here and get a job through the school. You'll geta work Visa, but you'll be stuck at that company till you are a US citizen.
Job Visa - Same as above basically. Find a company who needs positions filled. I believe it's called the HB1 Visa I believe.
Diversity Visa - This is basically a lottery. There are 50000 openings and they give them out to everyone in the world. Generally, the European, Austrailian onces aren't too competive so there is a higher chance of success than most other people.
Then you have two other choices, though I doubt you'll do.
Asylum - Say your home country is oppressing you. Though I am not sure what Australia could be doing.
Illegally Immigrate - Hell, if 12 million people did it, why can't you?
I would reccomend traveling to the US first to get a feel of the country. The US is pretty diverse place and not all things are equal. The West and Northeast or nice, but very expensive. The Midwest is where all of the factories used to be. The South is boring as hell, but that is where all of the jobs are. Cheap to live too.
Here is the website:

Note, if you manage to make it in, under no circumstance commit a crime. This is a quick one way exit out the door with no chance of returning. Traffic tickets are not included in this.
Also, I admire your spirit, my family has gone from poverty to of mild success. I know friends who have immigrated here with nothing and left owning businesses and a ton of wealth. However, if you expect this to be fairly easy to do, it's not. You have to work hard. Harder than those who want the same thing. You'll get disappointed, but working hard is at least a very good path to success.
