Sometimes, you can circumvent the local business customs or other customs by pretending you don't understand the language even if you do. People will treat you as a tourist and not a resident and sometimes that works to your benefit.

Don't walk in shitty areas of a place alone at night.

Look both ways before crossing a one-way street. Sometimes, there's a moron driving the wrong direction.

Learn the tax residency requirements for whatever country you're going to be staying in.

In some countries, you can buy a cheap GSM phone and chip that's already been activated under someone else's data for about $13 on the street. Hello semi-anonymous communications.

Get a bank account somewhere they don't charge you to use the ATM. This will likely be a smaller bank that's easier to work with anyway. Small banks will totally save your ass if you need help, because they have a bit more time to put into customer service.

Some countries don't have real visa lengths. You just pay an exit tax if you're not a resident when you leave. Essentially, you can live in this country forever on the tourist card you purchase on arrival.
