Hey /trv/

Anytime I travel for several hours or more via bus, train, or plane, I can't fucking sleep. At all. How do you manage, or do you just fucking deal with sleeplessness?
>> Anonymous
-No caffeine
-No tobacco (or as little as possible)
-Eat well. Carbs and protein.
-Stay hydrated
-Try earplugs or eye masks
-Try to stay warm. It's harder to sleep if it's cold.
-If all else fails, take some sleep pills or NyQuil.

I listen to Helios, or any other really mellow ambient music.
But Helios really knocks me out.

Noise canceling headphones, really low music, sweatshirt for a pillow, and Tylenol PM.
3 of 'em.

>>8929really mellow ambient music.

It used to be that you could dial up an ambient music channel on the onboard entertainment program, but for the last couple of years, it's been absent. A few of the programs were OK, I could close my eyes and just listen to the soothing music. The programs I really hated were the annoying commentary, telling me to imagine I'm on a beach, early in the morning, the sun coming up over the lapping waves... I was too busy listening to the commentary to concentrate on the ambient soundtrack.

Good advice.

And for the love of God, if you do manage to sleep make sure to wear an inflatable pillow around your shoulders to support your neck.
I slept 10 hours in a plane without realizing it, only woke up a few times and fell right back asleep afterwards and my neck was sore for days. >_<

Way to go, hitting submit instead of browse. I win. :D

This is relevant to my interests.

I can't sleep when traveling, at all almost. I just can't get comfortable at all, most of the time I just close my eyes and stay awake for the duration of the trip only to doze off 15 minutes before arriving at my destination.

Tried with inflatable pillows and they didn't do much good either, were helpful but not that much

Play a boring vidya game until you fall asleep, like Phoenix Wright.

Whenever I have to travel a long distance I stay up for about 30 hours in advance. Knocks me out like a baby.

Get a pair of Shure or Etymotic IEMs. Also pick up one of 'em Bedtime Beats CD's or Liquid Mind (which they use for insomniacs). Use the foam tips, enjoy. Otherwise do this>>8941

There's a white stain on it...

Never have a problem sleeping on ground transportation, but while in the air Ambien or xanax on a short flight are the only ways I'm getting to nap.

I never sleep while traveling, unless I'm not moving. I can entertain myself with imagination and my surroundings. Not once has it failed me in a long ride.

How do I survie a trip from LAX to Beijing that will take 19 hours aprox?

Don't whine, I have to do Boston -> Shanghai soon.

Well, not very soon actually, but the sheer scale of that planeride scares me.

I did 23 hours. Aus->Dubai->Glasgow. With delays...

Earplugs. Get them. And they should give you an eye mask. Even then I only got like 3 hours sleep and dozed for 10 mins at a time for the rest. But if you have that much trouble get some drugs for it. but be careful what is allowed in other countries and such

A xanex or two mixed with a glass of wine or a beer will put me out for at least 8 hours. I slept almost 13 hours during the last fight back to Japan from (through Taiwan). Get the meds. Just whine to your doctor about it or ask a friend/relative who has a prescription for a few.

Earplugs/eye cover/OTC sleeping meds = only way I have ever fallen asleep in a vehicle.

i lay my head down on the tray table like i did when i slept in class in high school. i use a sweatshirt for a pillow/eyemask. earplugs might be a good idea.

I just traveled Boston => Sydney. Tylenol PM = your best friend.

I do the same shit. You're the only other person I know that does this.

Another option is to rest your head on the shoulder of a friend. Might seem gay for the 1st 5minutes but once your out cold, wtf do you care?

I fucked my sister in the onboard toilet when we were going transatlantic once. I shit you not, sent me right to sleep though.

I wonder whether anyone knew we were siblings, lulz.
>> Anonymous
Yeah, your sister put me to sleep too

I very much doubt that, she's never fucked anyone else but me.

Don't get any sleep the night before your flight. When I go on a long flight I usually go for 24-30 sleepless hours.

Bring those noise canceling headphones and put on some ambient music. Tangerine Dream is pretty good. That shit knocks you out.
