I want to visit Iran this summer before you Amerifags invade and ruin 3000 years of Persian culture.

So what are some must see locations? Isfahan & Kashan are high on my list. Tehran sounds just like any other huge middle eastern city, people and smog everywhere.

A visa grants you access to their beautiful country for a week, I want to get as much sight seeing in as I possibly can within that time. Luckily intercity air travel is 30 USD a pop, so getting around is fast.. or so I'm told.

Mahmoud imadinnerjacket unrelated.

Not that Iran particularly interests me...but if I went I'd go to see the ruins at Persepolis.

It's a damn shame they make the girls down there keep their faces covered. Up here in NY I've never met an Iranian girl who wasn't fucking hot. Big dark eyes and long dark hair...

err... iran =/= afghanistan. Their headscarves (at least in big cities) don't cover their faces/all of their hair

Iran is begging for some bombing. If it isn't Israel who will bomb it, it will be USA and Israel.
And I'd say this will happen this year, probably.

There is so much things to see in Iran. Just wiki some of these:

Persepolis, Naghsh-i Jahan Square, Pasargadae, Chogha Zanbil, Throne of Solomon, Behistun Inscription, Kish Islands, Bam, Thaddeus Cathedral, Soltaniyeh, Queen Esther's Shrine, Yazd, Qeshm Island, Persian Gulf (you can also go surfing), Qur'an Gate, Alborz Mountains, Mount Damavand (some of the best skiing spots), Eram Garden, Hafez Tomb, Saadi Tomb, Khwaju Kermani's tomb, Pars Museum of Shiraz, Nasir al-Mulk mosque (and numerous other mosques), Shah Cheragh, Arg of Karim Khan, Vakil Bazaar (and numerous other bazaars), Vakil Bath, Qavam House, Afif-Abad Garden, Bishapur, Naqsh-e Rustam, Ka'ba-ye Zartosht, Bagh-e Melli, National Museum of Iran, Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art... I could go on for hours but it's a very beautiful country.

P.S. You can get 30 day visas as well.

Do some war tourism and check out the Iran-Iraq War sites

Go, OP. I've been to Tehran and Mount Damovand, it was good. Tehran is kind of crazy but you'll need to fly in through there anyway, so just check out some of the attractions (market, old US embassy etc) then head out.

The only problem is they are slow with visas, so leave plenty of time for them to process you. Also try to learn some Farsi phrases, and learn to read the numbers.

You might also want to check out Syria on the way out, Damascus is amazing.

Fortunately Iran is one of these countries that has so much of its resources concentrated into one city that crippling them will be effortless.

I also share the same desire to travel to Iran before it's a war zone (or blown off the map entirely). I've heard that the ski slopes are only 20 minutes from Tehran, and due to a rising middle class there are a fair few "western" boutiques along with your traditional markets.

Though the only thing I'd be buying is a rug.

I read somewhere that words about military and food in Arabic were of Turkish origin, and words about religion/state in Turkish were of Arabic/Persian origin.

So, yeah.
>> Anonymous
>>46020
I don't know much about Arabs using Turkish phrases, I doubt they do. But as for Turks using Persian words, that makes more sense, because Turkey was part of the Persian Empire, so many things had been carried over, such as culture and language. Later on, in the Ottoman Empire for example, Persian served mainly as a literary language, while Arabic was used solely for religious rites.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7516238.stm

At least eight women and one man are reported to have been sentenced to death by stoning in Iran.

The group, convicted of adultery and sex offences, could be executed at any time, lawyers defending them say.

you should attend one of these stonings. I hear they're a one in a lifetime experience. Mebbe they'll even let you throw some rocks?

And I read that food terms are often used AS military terms. Any Turkfags here to comment?

Air Force Shawarma?
>> Anonymous
All I know is shawarma is a bastardization of Turkish çevirme and in Iran teenage communist girls are raped and then hanged from a crane (they raise it slowly so that the victim dies from suffocation rather than their neck breaking - more painful). Thank you for spreading the love, religion!

I would also like to visit Iran but I'm afraid I won't be able to make it there before a war, although recent diplomatic developments seem promising.

Some places:
-ANCIENT RUINS EVERYWERE
-Qom, a very holy city (not sure what restrictions there would be for a non-Muslim)
-Shush, a modern settlement at the location of the very ancient city of Susa
-Pasargadae, the first capital of the Achaemenid Persian Empire (the one featured in 300)
-Kish, an island developed with tourists in mind with beaches and shopping (if you're into that kind of thing)

On a related note, how difficult would it be travelling in Iran only knowing English? Would it be difficult to find someone who speaks English during my travels?
>> Anonymous
>>46182

Not at all, a lot of young people speak (some) English, or you could always just get a guide.
>> Anonymous
Don't get a guide, you'll just get sold off into slavery or to the mujahedeen.

Bring camping equipment, especially water treatment tablets. Parts of modern Iran not guaranteed to be modern.

If a figure of authority looks at you queerly, bow down and suck his toes. You might come off with just a warning instead of a harsh beating and a week in the local dungeon.

Don't worry, only local Iranians suffer human rights violations at the hands of their government. Foreigners are just fine :)

Sorry, arabs beat you to it when they conquered the sassanid empire and dirtied the persian ethnicity.
