I just booked a hostel for the wrong date. The hostel is in Amsterdam and I emailed them in English asking to change the dates.

Should I wait for a response or cancel the reservation and book again?

Also, did this using hostelworld.com and emailed them through hosterworld.

It's not the place, dummy. This shit happens everywhere, even in your ivory tower, wherever that may be.

Everything is settled. The people were fast and helpful.

I don't get robbed, woken up by sound, and disturbed by foul smelling people where I live or where I've been.

If you go to the right places you will. Your post clearly suggests that you think that this can only happen if the entire city is like that. It shows your sheltered mindset.

me and the op are doing this trip. We've researched all the hostels we are staying at. All except the one in paris seem to be in great areas.

Also I used to live in NYC(in the bronx at one point and not the good part) and staying safe is just being smart and clearly not being in certain areas at certain times.

I personally am not bring anything valuable except for my zune, my cellphone, hopefully a canon XTi im going to buy for this trip, and the contents of my wallet. All which will be on me at all times. The rest of the stuff will be clothes which I will leave in the hostel(either in a locked room, locker, or with reception.
