Every scientific invention can be used as a weapon or a tool of creation. The splitting of the atom, the founding of penicillin, the advent of ballistics. These are all inventions that have brought pain and suffering to man kind, but they have also brought immense wealth and health to mankind as well. nuclear energy created the atomic bombs, but it also lead to nuclear medicine and nuclear powerplants, Penicillin might have saved soldiers lives and helped with the overall war effort of world war one, but it also helped to cure and save many lives that would've been lost otherwise. Ballistics have obviously been used to track the trajectory of projectiles as they moved through the air, but it has also been used to determine how airplanes and other vehicles travel though the air and how they respond to gravity.
So as a scientist, it is not your place to ask about how your findings will be used, but rather you should ask whether your findings could be used.
Leave the worrying about ethics and politics to the engineers, the politicians and the general public.
