go to /jp/ for a start >.>

Roppongi! Haha jk, you'll run into a lot of other foreigners clubbing there. Check out akihabara on a saturday. I heard its pretty chaotic.

to /jp/ with you

Definitely go up the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building. The view from the top is great on a clear day. Harajuku near Ometesando station on a Sunday is fun if you want to see cosplayers. Right by that is the Meiji shrine in Yoyogi park, really peaceful area. I loathe you for going for a month. I was in Japan for two weeks last summer around the same time. July 1st - July 14th. Dress accordingly btw, it's fucking HUMID there.

be cafeful when buying comics because they're mostly in plastic. the cover could be innocent and at the same time have porn content. also be prepared for inflated pricing. divide by 100 or place the decmil two digits to the left.

don't spend a month in tokyo, there's not that much to see.

go to kyoto/osaka/nara for at least a week. and go down to hiroshima if you can.

Shibuya is my favorite city, check it out if you get the chance.

Ghibli Museum. Don't listen to the people who say to buy your ticket ahead of time, you can roll up to the ticketing booth and buy one right there and then.

Korea much better than fapan

Consider making a day trip to Hakone. There are tons of onses there. also you can see Fuji-san from the near by lake Ashi.

Wikitravel has tons of info on Tokyo and the surroundings. http://wikitravel.org/en/Tokyo

Tokyogigguide.com has listings of interesting gigs. plus there is a map of Shibuya with record stores and concert halls. http://tokyogigguide.com/shibuyamap.jpg

Because you are here I'm assuming that you will go to Akihabara. Here's a map for you.
http://www.akiba-ch.com/?p=416

Last but certainly not the least. Because a month is a long time to spend in Tokyo, trust me on this one (I was there last summer for a month and 3 weeks the summer before that), get a Rail Pass. You'll need to buy one before going to Japan. But a Tokyo-Kyoto-Tokyo trip will cover a one week rail pass. With it you can use Shinkansen(excluding Nozomi) for free.
>> Herena-chan
I've just been en Japan and it was amzing .. Well, If you like fashion cosplay and stuff you should differently go to Harajuku. Also I think Hiroshima was very exciting to see and people was very nice there .. so yeah ^-^

Has anyone been to Tenzan before? Looks nice, but there is a rather unfavourable review on the Internet (you'll find it if you google). Is it easy to find from the bus stop? And is it correct that there is no bus to Okuyumoto Iriguchi from Amazake Chaya after 16:45? At least that's what I gather from the bus company webpage.

>> Akihabara. Here's a map
God, finally a printable map that fits on 2 DIN A4 pages, that isn't too cluttered, but still extendable. Thank you.

5891 here. Haven't been to Tenzan. If you want to go to Hakone then the easiest way to get there is by taking the Romance car from Shinjuku. cost around 2000JPY and takes around 1,5h to get to the Hakone-Yumoto Station.

http://japan-guide.com/ also has tons of info.

yeah Hakone is fucking nice. be sure to ride the Nice Boat (TM) on the lake.

also Nikko.

Thanks for the reply, but I already planned the Hakone trip thoroughly (also using the site you pointed out). The only real problem left for me is, that on the way back I need to get from the end of the better preserved part of the Toukaidou (Amazake Chaya) to Tenzan (Okuyumoto Iriguchi). As far as it looks the last bus leaves at 16:45, which could be a bit too early for me, if I miss a boat or a bus on the way.

Well, it will work out somehow.

As was said, get a JR Pass. It's about $300 for one, but living here (and thus being unelibable) I'd kill for one. Unlimited Shinkansen means you don't have to spend an entire month in a metropolis and miss a lot of the country. And do buy your pass ahead of time for the Ghibli, the business swells in summer, and Mitaka is kind of a waste to go to if you can't get the ticket.
>> Narmi
Hmmm, if you going to start in Tokyo. I suggest going to Shinjuku, Shibuya, Roppongi, the Sakura TV tower, Asakusa (to visit Kannon Temple if I'm right, sorry if I'm wrong) and that should be in a 2 to 3 days. depending how fast you go through each area.

As stated already visit Akihabara (doesn't really matter which day but if you want to see cosplaying then Sunday is the day to go). In Akihabara I suggest 2 to 3 days if you are slow and want to explore the whole shopping district. If can get a lot done I suggest 1 to 2 days (sadly I only got 11 hours in Akihabara *sigh*).

After you have explored Tokyo, going to Hakone would be fun but you need to plan it out and know the train system ( I took my family up to Hakone for the day by train.) While in Hakone if you want a resort kind of hotspring then I would suggest Kowakien Yunssun.

The link is here: http://www.yunessun.com/english/yunessun.html

If you want to bathe in a traditional hotspring. I have no info on that because I didn't go a traditonal hotspring.

Ok related to the train system and going to Hakone. From what I remember You need to get to Shinjuku. There are 4 different routes on the train system to get to Hakone all depending which area of Hakone you are going to.

Please look at this link;

OH YAH I almost forgot take the bus system from Hakone Yumoto to Hakone Kowakien Yunessun or anyway where else. I was in Hakone during the Spring and the scenery was great to look at.

I will repost the links here.

Buy some tech there, if you have the money. You'll save heaps, but _always_ ask for an english manual.

A place in Tokyo itself I haven't heard shouted out yet is Ueno

Go to Ueno if you want to see some museums, I did Ueno all in 1 day while I was there, such as the art museum, natural history, and such. The museums also had English placcards and maps, but no audio tours.
That is, if museums are you thing

Also if you wanna kill a day or two real fast, and get some bragging rights, climb Mt. Fuji - not to hard really

Ueno has great museums. The National museum of nature and science in Ueno is brilliant. Tons of stuff to see. And it huge. I spent like 3hours tehre and still didn't see everything.

Do not go to the Ueno Zoo. Worst zoo ever. Now I can't think of pandas without seeing the fucking
awful cage they had.

The National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation(Miraikan) in Odoiba is also fucking brilliant. The best science museum ever. they have Asimov and tons of interesting stuff to see.I spend something like 3,5hours there. If you like science, this is the museum to visit.

Real man don't need no flipping manual.

On a side note: Be firm with import taxes and fees in your country. In Germany for example, if the goods you import exceed €175 you will need to pay 13% tax and if they exceed €350 (?) you will need to pay the import tax (mostly below 5%) and an additional 19% import VAT.
So be careful!

You won't save heaps. It's a common misconception that tech is cheaper in Japan. It isn't. At best, you'll find things a few months before you'd find it in your non-Japan country. At worst, you'll find the same things you'd find at home for the same price, but you'll have to carry it on a plane to get it home.

>>You won't save heaps.
Ignoring that a Japanese Wii is useless in Europe:

Japan: 25,000 Yen = 157.35 Euro
Europe: 250 Euro = 39,721 Yen
>> Narmi
>>6917
Hmm that statement is true but while in Akihabara I found a few things I wanted that were cheaper when compared to Canada.

Nice photo there :). *Saves*

Norway: 2500kr = €317.65 = ¥50,517

I'd say we save quite a bit.

Not OP, but got a related question. Will you survive with english in Japan?
>> Anonymous
>>7035
Unless you hire an interpretor and translator everywhere you go, no, your experience will be drastically be limited. Every electronic store in Akihibara and Denden for example don't have a single english speaker cashier at least none that I met.

Very few parts of Japan has the population speaking even broken English (Most being the tourist attractions).
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>7036

This is the exact opposite of my experience. As long as you are assertive and confident, you can always find someone with some English speaking ability.

I guess it would be tough if you are a tiny, shy basement-dwelling weeaboo.

Get the fuck out tripfag. Your old /n/ is gone and so should you. That said, you are very much correct. As long you're not a dumbass and know even a little bit of Japanese, its fine ESPECIALLY since you're just shopping.
