Yea this is what you should do in my oppinion. Take ONLY JFK. You get on the airtram once u land in JFK. Then you take it to Jamacia station (ull figure it out). From Jamacia you take a train to Penstation (34th st), then from pen you can take the red or blue suibway line down to chelsea. Its not bad and people will help as well, just take JFK or ur gunna spend $ on taxis

Op should also consider EWR. Despite being in New Jersey, it's a lot faster to get to the city than LGA, which is utter shit and basically functions as nothing more than a free subsidy to the taxi drivers of NYC.

PROTIP: don't be cheap, treat yourself to a cab.

Protip: ignore this advice unless your arrival time is before 5 AM or after 9 PM.

thanks for the advice. But isnt trains in NY 24hrs?

trains in new york are 24 hours however after a certain time (think around 10) they all run local, effectively doubling your travel time. Also after 12pm trains come every half hour

They have metro card vending machines set up inside stations. What you do is activate the touch screen thing (by pressing start) and choosing what kind of metrocard you want. You should choose regular. After that it'll direct you to how much money you want to put on it, a ride on the subway with unlimited subway-subway transfers is 2.00. Plan accordingly.

Airtrain to New Jersey Transit Northeast Corridor. Take any New York bound NJT train (buy your ticket in a vending machine in the airport along with the airtrain ticket). If an Amtrak train stops at your platform, do not get on, or you will be ridiculed and/or kicked off the train in disgrace and/or ticketed for fare evasion. The way you can tell it's Amtrak is it says AMTRAK all over it.

Also be warned that there is a "Penn Station" in Newark on the way to New York Penn Station (it's because there used to be this company called the "Pennsylvania Railroad" in the good olde days). Do not get off just because you hear the word "Penn" in the announcement. You will know you are in New York because it is underground and everyone on the train gets up simultaneously.

I love flying out of LGA. Yes, it's small and shitty, but you can get through ticketing and security in under 10 minutes.

Getting from LGA to the city is a bit of a hassle. But I always take the M60 Bus (stops in front of every terminal) to the N train. There will be an announcement. Half the bus will empty at this stop.

From there I take the N into the city, but if you're headed uptown, the M60 continues on to Manhattan. Like 116th street or something.
