Moving to the States from Vancouver Anonymous
Is it possible to get into the US as soon as I hit 18 years of age?

If you have a Canadian passport, you can stay for six months, hop the border and come back for another six. Then, you wouldn't have to do the whole residence visa thing.

never new that, thanks

but I imagine that I would be granted more privileges if I had a residency visa or whatnot. Does anyone know the plausibility of getting into the states at age 18 to 20? I'm sick of this shitty weather in Vancouver

Wait. Why do you want to move from Vancouver? I'm looking to move there from the states..Anything I should know? Do you just want a change of scenery, or do you dislike living there?

I've lived here my whole life and it's not that bad or anything. I just want to know what options are available to me. I'll probably live in Cali or NY for a while and see if I like it. If I do, I'll want to get a residency

Lol, let's just do a trade. You can live at my house, and I'll do the same at yours. That's exactly what I'm doing. Moving from a small suburb outside of SF.

Going to the states is a step down from vancouver

cali is just some desert wasteland where everyone is full of themselves

New york is a glorified shit hole so over crowded

To get residency, or a visa, you either need to be in the lottery for visas or be sponsored by a company. The lottery is very hard to win (only 50000 I believe) and no company is going to sponsor you unless you have useful job skills.

Now, you can live here illegally, which might be more feasible. Jobwise, you might just get by if you say you ran away from parents and have no social security info and whatnot. So long as you don't look Mexican you'll be ok.

haha. okay, I actually live in Coquitlam, which is suburban. I want a taste of the city life.

What are housing costs(rental apt, basements) and quality like over there? I know we aren't doing so good in Vancouver

Hahahhahah oh god. That makes me sad for you. It's unbearably expensive anywhere in the Bay Area. Especially San Fransisco. You wouldn't be able to live there, unless it was in just an utter shitstye. I don't mean to be pretentious, but I'm fairly well off and even I couldn't even begin to afford living there.
