What would be the cheapest and easiest way to travel from Paris to Berlin? Preferably not hiking.

I'll be traveling around New Years, probably on the 1st of January, if that changes anything.

Sorry , post error. was meant to read

"Yeah , but its essentialy like travelling on Greyhound. It will be slow , uncomfortable , and its gonna be coach. By train however (and you can get a cheaper express train , rather than the TGV/ICE) it will be reletively comfortable ,much faster , and not much more expensive. On the downside , youve picked the worst day to travel. Normaly , you can get a ticket from DB for as little as $50. However , on new years day , when demand is high and trains few , theres only a handfull of tickets left , and those at $176. If you go a week later though, you can go 1st class for $87

dunno what TGV stands for but ICE is Inter City Express. bus will be cheaper than trains for sure, although it is way shitter. if you dont mind missing out on the scenery try Easyjet and Ryanair, you should be able to get some seriously cheap flights, especially if you book now

Thanks for the information.

Unfortunately, to get the cheapest ticket I could find from the US to Paris (the initial part of the trip), I planned to fly ON Christmas day. I've only go the funds for about a 12 day trip, and I need to be in each city about an equal amount of time in order to visit all of the areas required by my grant. So, this leaves me with going from Berlin to Paris on New Years day (I may be able to move it a day or two, if that would make things considerably cheaper).

Are you a student? Try Student Universe. Ryanair is cheap in europe. Also once in Paris check the Deutsche Bahn website. DB, it is in english too if you need.

TGV - train à grande vitesse, a high-speed French train.

Wiki is not so hard to use.

Try also www.germanwings.com , www.tuifly.com , www.airberlin.com , www.easyjet.com - all these are cheap airline from germany - or europe.
maybe also thalys.com - it's a fast train connecting Paris to Cologne where you might have to change trains.
Good luck
