Fail, fail, fail.
1. Manhattan does not, as you seem to think, end at Harlem. Op may be able to find a place in northern Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, or Jersey City. Heading straight to Brooklyn and ignoring the rest of the metro area is a typical and stupid beginner's mistake.
2. Harlem is not affordable. Welcome to the 21st century.
3. Brooklyn is HUGE and there are poor shitty areas as well as places more expensive than many areas in Manhattan.
I would advise the op to seriously reconsider unless op is well versed in homelessness. You will need to front well over $1000 for any living situation, even a lot of shares, and you will need money to eat while you wait for your first paycheck. Even if you're lucky enough to land a job your first day here, with no experience, good luck surviving on $0 for a month while they figure out yout paperwork and eventually crank out a check. Oops, rent is due again. Oops, you're fucked.
Or, befriend someone who will let you sleep on their sofa for a month. It's how a lot of people get started here.
