Hawaii Anonymous
So /trv/, my family has decided we're going to Hawaii instead of China this summer. It'll be in June, so I assume it'll be hot. I can't say I'm incredibly fond of the sun, but I really just want ideas of places to go that aren't too full tourist faggotry and overpriced (like every other tourist). It can be anything, really. We're visiting Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and Hawaii in that order, for about 4 days each.

tl;dr places to go in Hawaii.

no it won't. You're in the middle of the fucking ocean so it will be 75 every day.

Oahu-Pearl Harbor, Waikiki Beach, Honolulu area, North Shore
Maui-Kaanapali, Lahaina, Haleakala, Road to Hana.

I don't know, what do you like? I just got back from visiting my wife there. (Waiting on immigration paperwork)
There's lots to see and do on Oahu. I spent three days on the Big Island (Hawaii) in Hilo, and it might be a bit slow for some. (I liked it)

My only advice that's not interest specific is GET OUT OF WAIKIKI. It's really expensive, and filled with tourists. Drive around, if you have your own car. Getting around on TheBus is awkward, but can be done. North shore is beautiful. Eat lots of really cheap and fresh fish. Try poke, if you don't mind raw fish.

I can't say I love the beach, especially if it's going to be sunny. I like nature though and wanted to do a lot of forest hikes and maybe some snorkeling. Can you rent a waterproof camera to go snorkeling?

Go wander around in the forests and don't be white.

Also, don't go into the forests on the Big Island, or wild boars or toxic spiders may kill you.

I have traveled all over the Big Island and Kauai and I can say without fear of reasonable contradiction that there is a LOT of Hawaii that is not full of idiot tourists and hotels and all that. The Anonymous who said Get the Hell away from Hilo is right. Do that and you'll be OK.

Wasn't too impressed with Honolulu. It's basically a big slum. Stick to Maui.

Is there a lot of private property on Hawaii? I'd love to wander through the forests, but if you try and do that anywhere here you run into a lot of barbed wire fences...I'd prefer not to get into trouble with the law. Although there was some sort of abandoned hospital on one island I wanted to visit at night for the hell of it.

Also, anyone think /p/ would help me pick out a really good camera for the trip? I don't know their temperaments.

I second this, especially the part about getting out of Waikiki and eating poke.

Do some research first. Pick out a couple of models you would like to purchase and figure out what your budget is. Chances are you'll probably be best off with a Canon Powershot A-series, 6xx or 7xx model. Those feel good in the hand and aren't too large to get in the way of any traveling.

Has anyone done the helicopter ride over the volcano? Is it worth it? I've heard it's really expensive.

>Can you rent a waterproof camera to go snorkeling?

I lol'd. Every cornor has that shit.

go to Hanunamu Bay (I don't think I spelled it right) Its a wild life preserve / beach. Lots of sea life. Really nice. Also there is supossed to be a hike that takes you to the what the begging of the the world looked like.
