Where To? Anonymous
So this isn't really international travel (except for Mexico & Canada...) I am a Los Angeles resident and I just got my Driver's Liscense. Now I'm looking for interesting places to go that can be driven preferrably in one or two days. Any suggestions?

okay so hearst castle was helpful (i forgot about that one entirely), but I've been to most of the others. I was thinking more along the lines of specifics, locales that people really enjoyed or specific places people had always wanted to go, with emphasis on Interesting. Besides Vegas, really?

Sorry if it's a shame to have a neighbor who wants to enjoy the beautiful state we both share.

Just drive up the 1 to SF. Nice this time of year. It'll cover Hearst Castle. There must be a PCH tourist listing somewhere google it. The scenery is amazing. Then get to SF and watch the faggotry get some chink food, stay the night, then come back on the 5 (much faster).

Then next time you can do the deserts. But the deserts are lame unless you're at some rave on acid or something.

Drive down to San Diego. It has everything LA does, but isn't as shitty, and is an awesome city. Plus, Tiajuana is right next door.

Stay out of the mountains until you've got a few more years of driving experience.

In the meanwhile, look up the various UCs and CSUs and check out the campuses and surrounding areas. There's usually something interesting to look at, although not necessarily enough to spend a whole day on at many of them.

Go to Mount Lassen, where you can walk around in the mouth of an active volcano. And you don't even have to leave our gracious state. CALIFORNIA, FUCK YEAH.

If you want to get some reasonably easy mountain pass driving experience and take a long loop through the region, do this. I like to drive just to see things, so if you're looking for an actual destination and not a day trip, do something else:

- drive south to OC. Depending on where in LA you are, suggest 405 south -> 710 south
- get on PCH
- head north on the 5
- take 74 over the Ortega Mountains
- get on 15 north to 91, or continue on 74 to 215 and 60
- go home

I did this sort of thing a lot when I first started driving, drove all over socal to learn the area better. Gas was a lot cheaper back then, though. There's a lookout point on 74 through the Ortegas, if you go on a weekend you can see a lot of planes and skydivers and shit over the lake in that valley. Just don't get too distracted cuz people are retarded on that road and die all the time due to idiocy, or so it used to be.

If you want to leave the region and sightsee, go to SF and get a transit pass. Fucking awesome place. Northbound 5 is an easy route, just make sure you bring a lot of music.
