I'm going to Canada for a week this summer, and I have no idea what it's like.
Can someone give me a heads up?
>> Anonymous
It's cold and there's tons of wasteland outside of the major cities.

But the major cities are pretty cool.
>> Anonymous
Well I going to Montreal. Don't know that the hell I'm going to do either.
>> Anonymous

Oh.

Go to Vancouver instead.

>>45360
Seconded.

Or even Toronto for Pete's sake!

I'm going to have to agree. However, if you like Hassidic Jews, Montreal is the place for you!

However, you can always go to La Ronde, or the Casino if you're old enough. Also, going on right now until the end of July is the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival.

Do you speak French?

hey there, i live in montreal (not from there originally) i really love the city mostly because its a great place to visit on foot. there are tons of places to walk on the island (yes its an island in case you didnt know) there are great places to eat or party, lots of major shows for 10-18$ everynight. People are mostly nice and often fun to watch. and everything revolves around downtown and you can get everywhere with the subway (the map is easy to understand too). what do you usually like to do? museum? regular tourist stuff ? just hang around? strip joints? party? shop? ill tell you where to go.

How do people from Quebec feel about French people?

Quebec is nice this time of year. Best thing to do is go into a shop(travel store at an airport, travel agency etc) and get a recent quebec travel book. Anything worth doing will be in there.
>> Anonymous
>>45395

travel books will probably send him to the Casino, the Olympic stadium, chinatown or to LaRonde... most of the places suggested in books are real crap.

>How do people from Quebec feel about French people?
That is such a broad question...
The portrayal of French people in Quebec media is not the same as in the U.S. if that is what you're asking? E.g. they don't say all French people are cowards? There are interesting societal differences but I don't know if that's what you want to know about.

It's called a joke.

Montreal's really great during the summer, there's a ton of festivals to go to. Just for Laughs is on now, as someone else said.

Montreal is a great city, don't listen to Torontofags.

>>45379
Hassidic Jews? There aren't that many. Montreal Hassids live in the Mile End area, and you don't see them outside of there that much. Most Jews in Montreal aren't Hassids.

As for stuff to do in Montreal, it depends what you're into. Regular tourist stuff? Drinking? Sex tourism?
>> Anonymous
>>45445

I should add that other than what's been suggested (LaRonde amusement park and the Casino) there'S lots of cool stuff in Mtl. I'd give suggestions but I don't what type of tourist you are.

I might add that Montreal's Chinatown blows. It's literally like 3 blocks. There's some good Vietnamese restaurants there.

why are americans' prides so easily wounded? that i will never understand.
perhaps it's because they have been sheltered for so long and now that the world has come a knockin' they can't take the heat.

fuck you, canada isn't a free country if you can't make fun of queers without being pulled into a human rights court and possibly be thrown in prison, canada doesn't have a bill of rights, no freedom of speech, and the motherfucking supreme court of this nation says i can have a gun to defend myself, ain't nothing wrong with our second amendment, fuck you you fascist buttfuck

>canada isn't a free country if you can't make fun of queers without being pulled into a human rights court and possibly be thrown in prison
sigh.. typical hysterical american. canada is way freer than the US currently is what with the patriot act and other pseudo-fascist shit like that.
does anyone have that map showing the civil liberties 'levels' of all the countries. where russia and the uk are labeled "endemic police states" in black while the US is a "severe police state", or something like that, in red and canada is as free and blue as a bluebird.

I'm not aware of any Americans being thrown in prison who weren't actively plotting to commit acts of terrorism. It is painfully obvious that political dissidents aren't being thrown in prison. Lord knows, if Bush would start arresting Liberals I'd be a happy man and so would millions of other Americans.

Now I don't know if Canada is some kind of police state or not, and I honestly don't care. I've been there a few times, driven around a bit, and to be honest if I didn't know to look for Canadian flags I'd almost think I was still in the US. Canada is not much different from most of the United States. They don't have a strong accent (in places I've been to), they don't dress differently, they don't act differently... They don't even eat that differently.

most places in canada don't give free refills on your drinks.

Probably because the poster tried speaking to Quebeckers in English.

Protip: If you're gonna visit here, it wouldn't hurt to learn some basic French.

if you're at a bar, you must ask the bartender to move your drink if you plan on sitting somewhere else. it is illegal to pick up your drink and move it.

also, they don't tip. don't tip the mother fuckers.

>also, they don't tip. don't tip the mother fuckers.
I tip... s'wrong with you.

minimum wage is like $10 an hour whereas in the USA waitresses get paid $2 an hour and rely on tips. Canadians come down thinking they don't need to tip all the time. When I'm up there, I don't even tip the STRIPPERS. fuckin whores are getting $10 an hour anyway.

Calgary's city penis is 2x the size of Edmonton's, so they built a giant mall to distract people.

From Toronto/Mississauga here.

Quebec City is a nice place to visit. Many small shops, cobblestone streets and horse buggies. Very quaint.

Quebec is great! Quebec City is having its 400 year anniversary celebrations all year round.

Montreal is a really great place to visit too, I'd highly reccomend it. It's gt something for everyone; shopping, touristy type stuff, great restos/bars.

>>45631
Minimum wage is different across the provinces.
