I hope I'm not touching upon a trite topic, but has anyone gone to burning man? A friend of mine insists it's a fantastic experience and I'm inclined to believe him.

Also, how good are my chances of sneaking into the event? The ticket prices are a bit steep.

my friend told me that fingering your ass while you masturbate is a fantastic experience, but he's a dirty hippie so i dont believe him

it is. i went many years ago & it was awesome. it's changed a lot since but who knows? if you've never been at all it'll be an experience...

>sneaking into the event?
not worth the trouble. just pay up, buy early.

it used to be free, then in the 90s is was $20-$50 now its like $210-$295 but mind you its two people per ticket so about $120 each

I'm going. I heard there were gonna be some btards around 6 and E, but I'm not sure (that's actually why I'm back looking)

There's almost no chance of sneaking in, and the tickets are per person. For 7 days, it's really not that bad.

That fucking much?

How hard can it be? I mean, they don't ask for your tickets once you're inside, right?

Taken from a Burning Man fourm:
This'll be my seventh year and I've yet to meet anyone that's copped to sneaking in. They've upped the punishment in recent years - not only do the people caught have to buy a ticket but I believe there's a penalty for the car, too (everybody in the car or just the driver?)

Yes, there's a perimeter fence (it's orange - I think it's a cyclone fence or maybe a snow fence) that encloses the event. Check out the map, you'll see the pentagon shape - that's the fence, and, yes, it's in the middle of nowhere but there's only a few roads that have access to the playa (every few miles) and these are closed during the event. So, it's a little like Alcatraz in that getting over the prison walls is just your FIRST order of business.

At night, the Law Enforcement Organizations (LEOs) use infrared and all sorts of toys to spot people outside the event's perimeter. Since there's no reason for anybody to be out there (paid participants included) they pick you right away.

As far as sneaking in goes, Gate (as they're known) are very aggressive and thorough. They know all the secret spots and every year I've been made to stop my car and open my Thule box on the top of my SUV. They poke through large loads, search RV bathrooms, the works.

tl;dr All vehicles and trailers are searched, the perimeters are patrolled by BLM and other law enforcement as well as volunteers with radar, night vision goggles.

And the festival lasts for 10 days. The ticket is good for every day of the event.

Fuck $300 and 300 miles per ticket just to go to some modern-day Woodstock in the desert. Fuck those greedy flatlander cocksuckers. I went camping with my uncle Lou and his buddies every year out at the Black Rock *before* the fucking Burning Man and now if I show up at the wrong time some postmodern brownshirts are going to show up and dig through my shit and holler at me? Fuck 'em.

/loads everything

Yeah, but what are one's chances of getting a hitch in (assuming one has a ticket in the first)? I've been traveling wheelless since my truck got stolen outside of a Rainbow gathering...

I've never been, but from what I've seen on the various forums and such, probably pretty good.

might be that you can fire anything with it?

If they search all your shit how the hell do you sneak in shitloads of hallucinogens?

Hippies have forgotten how to be hippies, man.

I doubt the search for freeloaders in every participants rectum

No, Gate is only looking for hippies without tickets. They only look in the places they might hide.

They are not patting down the kids for shit in their pockets or opening up their glovebox or anything.
