Dearest /trv/,

I'm taking a road trip this weekend and I was checking out hotels online for this Friday night and a suite that averages between $98 and $129/night was available for $29/night at a hotel relevant to my interests. I figure this hotel's website is fucked, but I said fuck it and booked three rooms as fast as I could. I've gotten the confirmations and even spoken to the hotel to ensure there were no additional charges, but I'm still worried that I'm going to get there and they're going to tell me that each room is $129/night or some such madness.

Anyone have any similar experiences? Or any hotel employees here that might shed some light? I'd love to save huge money, but I'd rather not risk this fucking my life this weekend. Any thoughts much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

If you booked it on your credit card, they should cover you if the hotel fucks you over. Make sure to keep the $29/night confirmation thing they sent you, just in case.

will do, for sure. I just wonder if I have any grounds to tell the hotel that I'm not paying any more than I agreed to when I made the reservation. And I'm just worried that I'll show up and be on the hook for much more money than I bargained for. Should I call and let them know that I made the reservations for this much? Or should I just show up and raise hell if they notice?

It's actually pretty common for hotels to charge way more on their own websites. Because if you book through an agency or a website or a tour operator or whatever, you can take advantage of the discounts they get when they book a lot of rooms at once. So you probably got really lucky, well done.

Yeah, I'm just afraid they'll tell me I'm nuts when I check in with a reservation for a $29/night room.

i worked in the hotel industry for many moons. fuckups do happen, but if you have a confirmation page printed it will be to your advantage. Your confirmed reservation is a contract with the hotel, so they have to honor it. $29/per night is a lot less patently unreasonable for a room rate than something like $.29/night would be.

Now, this isn't to say some dickhead at the hotel won't try to fuck you over. If this happens, threaten lawsuits, calling corporate if it's a chain, etc. They will fold, especially if you get loud and let other guests know what is going on.

Most likely, though, mistake or not, the clerk will just check you in at your quoted rate. The clerk doesn't give a fuck what you're paying, regardless.

Thanks for your perspective. I'll go in with the printed confirmations ready for war if necessary. Maybe I'll do a little research on the company and who owns it etc.

Thanks.

Also, when you check in they should have you sign a registration card confirming your rate and what not. If that has the $29 amount on it sign it and that's basically set in stone. If they charge you another amount you can show that to them. You should be able to haggle with your confirmation letter too. Discounts and comps are given all the time in the hotel industry.

OP here. Hope I get the cheap rate. The weekend will be much more expensive if I don't.

In Japan, Choice Hotels offers superior rates if you book online.
