Hey /trv/. I want to disappear. I want to leave my life in the United States and roam for a little while, just dropping everything and disappearing off the face of the earth.

...The question is: Where do I go? I really don't know very much about the rest of the world (lol mass media), and can't really judge things like cost of living, how foreigner-friendly societies are, and other important nuances like that. I like, want to have a job wherever I go, and have an apartment. What should I expect?

Please God, don't let there be much red tape.

The question is: What kind of education do you have?

Moderate-Mediocre. Whatever you would merit US public school education and a little bit of college. I know trig, too...for some reason.

go to helpx.net. find a farm or place in europe that will accept you for a long term (like up to 6 months). stay as long as possible and try and get some cash in hand job

Jesus Christ, awesome. Europe, eh? Sounds like a good place to start, actually.

Oh, how about crossing borders and stuff while on trains and things like that. Am I gonna need to staple a passport to my chest or face night-stick retribution, or is it a little more, well..aloof?

Well, you'll NEED a passport and probably some kind of visa. Don't worry too much about acquiring a work visa though, those're for nancy-boys.

Cash-in-hand jobs aren't hard to come by, if you have any trouble finding some go to your nearest Hostel, they generally put info about local employers on a notice board or if you just chat with the occupants you should be able to get some info from 'em.

BREAKING NEWS: YOU FUCKING SUCK

Travel is not a board dedicated to wishful thinking. You cannot escape your reality and need to learn to make paradise from what you have.

Travelling is serious fun, not to be undertaken by dreamers who live in a tiny little bubble where they never move from. Take the smallest fucking action towards travelling, such as getting your passport, remove your expectations about employment and accommodation, or sit on your fucking arse and do nothing, either way JUST REMOVE THIS THREAD AND TRY AGAIN.

And YES, THERE WILL BE SO MUCH RED TAPE YOU WILL WANT TO SCREAM.

PS: YOU FUCKING SUCK

Join the French foreign Legion, They'll pay well, take care of you and if you want they'll give you a new identity and citizenship in France. But its a big commitment though so i would think long and hard before you decide to do anything drastic.

Do some more reading OP.

You have to speak and understand French for that, though, as they flat out refuse to communicate in any other language, even though they can.

Yeah, fair enough, but it's still nice to hear if someone has tried this. I guess not so much, though, or at least have survived to use the internet again.

Also: This is a pretty serious idea. I'm saving up for that ditch in my life that is sure to come sometime in the next ten years.

Of course people have tried it. I did it last year. I also did about 4 months of research on countries, their citizenship laws, their tax systems, cost of living, etc. before i shipped out.

How much money you got?
>> Anonymous

Essentially, yes. I gave away everything in my apartment. Came here with a big ass suitcase, a small rolling suitcase, duffel bag, backpack, and laptop. The only things in the luggage was clothes and books. I didn't do anything stupid like sell my property and house, but I definitely quit my job and came here with no job prospects.
