I have a few questions about Pripyat, Ukraine. I don't really plan on going there, these are more out of curiosity. (In before "Get out of here stalker")

- How dangerous is it there in terms of radiation?
- How dangerous is it there in terms of people hanging around/doing shady things/squatting there?
- Are people freely allowed in, or is it fenced off?

It's probably not a very popular tourist destination, but I thought maybe some of you had been to the general region and might know more than I. Thank you.

They're doing public tours. I assume its safe enough for a tour group cause thats what they do. I don't feel like finding the link, just google something like "chernobyl tours" and it'll come up.

radiation you don't have to worry about, but I heard there are arm dealers and shit operating in those radiated areas to trade to the middle east.

A lot of it was fenced in it was called the "zone" it was made up a bunch of towns near chernobyl and pripyat

To reiterate this: They are doing tours, and in the small villages around there, you'll find one or two houses with actual people living there. The radiation levels are rather sporadic, you can get intense radiation in one spot, then two feet away it'll be as radioactive as the middle of Canada. All in all, it's generally safe. There's wildlife thriving, albeit sick or with mutated DNA. It's mainly the trees and wildlife bringing the radiation out of the soil, so anywhere with concrete is fine. I don't think they let you too close to the sarcophagus, or in some buildings where there's a lot of radiation during the tours (obviously).

>>54824again,

There have been foreign and local graffiti artists running amok in Pripyat, so there are things drawn on walls and such. No, it isn't fenced off, more a designated area.

why wouldn't they let you go near it, the other 3 reactors remained operational till 2000, can't be giving off that much radiation

In during GET OUT OF HERE STALKER.

There's not enough that you can't go there, but there's enough to kill you if you stick around too long or venture into the wrong place.

Stalker is a badass movie. You think they would mind if you started to live there.
