Sup /trv/lers,
I'm heading to Istanbul for five days this Friday and was wondering if anybody had any experiences to relate, advice to give, or general suggestions on helping to make my time there epic? Excuse the tripfaggotry, but will be offering travelling tips/help for other requests and don't want to be accused of asking without making a contribution.

Turkey is a fucking incredible country. Enjoy your trip, one of the best vacations of my life was in Istanbul.

Be sure to get to the Grand Bazaar at least once. It's awesome.

Also, don't attempt to smuggle hashish out of the country.

Visit the "historical peninsula"; see the hagia sophia, hippodrome, sultanahmet mosque etc.

Don't go to Dolmabahce Palace, it's a western style palace with nothing interesting to see if you've seen any other one in Europe. But the Topkapi palace is a must see.

Go to Taksim and see Pera(Beyoglu) district and Istiklal street. Avoid back alleys.

Try to taste every Turkish food you see except mussels in any form to avoid food poisoning.

Go to Arnavutkoy and try one of the fish restaurants, I recommend "adem baba".

Don't fall for tourist traps. They are obvious. Don't be gullible.
