Would anyone living/working in Australia be kind enough to explain what information should and shouldn't be present on a CV?

For instance, in the US, you wouldn't include your marital status, but I've seen where in France it was expected. How are you on birthdate, etc.?

Thanks for the help.

It depends on they type of job you're going for, if it's just casual work at a cafe or whatever, it really doesn't matter at all. You could even explain in an interview or whatever about your situation and ask what they'd like.

Flesh out your typical resume to about 2 pages, maybe even 3 if you have a lot of experience or are listing a lot of skills specific to the jobs you will be applying for.

Do NOT include any personal information which can be used to discriminate against you: age, marital status, hell, I wouldn't include salary expectations as that's too personal.

DO include referees, where possible local (never really cross-referenced so could be faked), as well as a small section on your interests or special skills.

Career objective could be hit or miss, depending on what industry you're going for. Certain other things would be highlighted based on the same thing. If you could cough up some specifics about your line of work, I may be able to help further.

The meat of the resume doesn't concern me so much - I've got typical education, skills, experience sections listed.

I was more concerned about the little tidbits like:
>Do NOT include any personal information which can be used to discriminate against you

Australian resumes seem quite similar to the US in that regard.

Ah, I forgot the name of the book before, but I can highly recommend the Global Resume & CV Guide by Mary Anne Thompson.

But if you're not going to be travelling a lot, you can find an excerpt here from her book: http://www.overseasdigest.com/country/australia.htm#Resume
