Moved from the US to NZ 3 years ago. I'm 20 now. Here's my take: >>quality of life Less than that of the states: smaller housing, lower average pay, everything costs more because of shipping costs, most industries that you buy products from (except for food) are more than likely overseas, education is less, dropping out of high school earning a blue-collar job and gettin pissed off your unacceptable face are all part of the accepted standard (but of course there is an upper class here, just that there's a broader lower class). Internet is more expensive, limited, regulated, and slower than the states. >>job market Exported, littery. Due to the commonwealth work permit, all the intellectual/high training jobs are anywhere but new zealand because that's where the $ is at. We're not a rich country, and we've only got 4 million people. Also, see blue-collar trash comment above. >> Would a teacher be able to get a job fairly easily? NZ has a MAJOR teacher shortage, but you may require going to school for a year acquiring a teacher's certificate. >> transportation? Sucks. Due to shipping costs, gas (called petrol here colloquially) costs way more. In-city transpo is good, and the bus systems are nice, especially wellington's. The highways (lol...) arn't as large/well laid as the US, and the if you're going by air to the south island it's either christchurch or blenhem mate, and if it blenhem then I hope you dont mind small planes. As in 6 passengers max.
In short: Love $? Stay in the US. Want a more relaxed social environment, slightly more liberal? NZ's pretty chill-laxed, mate.
