I just got back from the PRC. Anyone want to talk about China?

I visited Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Shanghai.

You'd think so, but you'd be wrong. Thanks to China I now have an entire new wardrobe that cost about $50 total; I never have to buy clothes again. Also the drinking age there is 15 and there are whore houses everywhere, tell your kids!

And it's dirty, oppressive, and everything there is poorly made in sweatshops by 5 year olds. Enjoy buying a new wardrobe after a year when yours falls apart.

Fuck you, those 5 years olds have more talent than that.

Were the people oblivious to their government's evils or were they just scared for their own safety?

I'm going with oblivious. They've lived with it all their lives, so they just know how to deal with the rules. I didn't see much evidence of an oppresive regime anyway (could be because they're good at hiding it); all that I saw was that almost eveyone in the city lived in tiny appartments, and it's really hard to own a car in Shanghai--two things that aren't really bad at all. When it came to the really poor people, that's just their life as well. Nobody seemed to be having an especially bad time.

I don't get it, why would something he bought in China be any worse than what you're wearing that was made in China?

are the whore houses cheap?

Also what are the local non whore girls like? friendly to white folks or will you be ignored by locals that arent trying to sell something...how is the nightlife?

I would but they kidnapped my family...

If you're white then you probably don't need prostitutes except if you're visiting a big city (guangzhou for example is relatively hard to have a one-nighter in). But they are cheap, and blow western pros out of the water physically.

I don't pay for it, but if I did I'd stick to street walkers. Heard some bad stories about the scams they run in brothels (but with that one exception I wouldn't fear crime at all, they tend to be quite respectful to foreigners). Plus you know who you're paying for that way... only street girls tend to be scarcer in bigger cities so I guess the only option would be call girls which is just as bad.

Tourist guides take you to the most expensive shops in China and not to any rural areas.

They're the Jews of Asia.

Coincidentally, I too am visiting China for a few weeks, leaving this Thursday. I'm going to be staying in Shanghai for the first week, and then hope to visit Suzhou and Hangzhou, and a couple of other cities. Out of Shanghai, Suzhou and Hangzhou, which was your favorite city? And which districts did you find were most useful in shopping for clothes?

>Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou, and Shanghai
I went on a tour with these specific cities going from Hangzhou towards Beijing. Travel company was based in HK.
Pretty much visited historical sites and the occasional shopping stops. Shanghai was probably the best for me, mostly because of the night skyline and Nanjing road. Oh and I got a foot rub from a cute chinese girl in Beijing, as part of the tours last stops before going back. I think it was a physical therapy group or something of that nature.
