Look man, if you have some streetsmarts, you'll do fine there. However, the average poster on 4chan does not. If you are easily intimdated by black folk and shitty neighborhoods and the possiblity of crimes being committed against you, don't go into the inner city.

If you look threatening enough, have a sense of humor about it, and walk with a sense of purpose you will have a much better chance of not hating that city.

OP

Thanks for teh advice. I'm sure I'll be fine in that regard. I'm actually going to be living in Troy (just north of Detroit). My original destination was Kansas City, but I just found out the other day that we'd be going to Detroit. I live in north Texas, so KC was a much easier drive.

Yeah, but I'll be working all over the Detroit Metro area. I install alarm systems for a security company, so I'll be going in people's houses and drilling holes in their walls and shit.

I'll check it out, thanks.

Oh you'll be fine. Just don't piss off the black people or ride up in a really expensive car and they'll leave you alone.

Troy is also the nicest area in the Detroit area, you should spend most of your time there as it's both safer and nicer.

If you get bored, go to Canada. It's just a hop, skip, and a jump away.

Unless the OP is below 21, why the fuck would he want to go to Windsor?

I don't know, I thought it might be cool to go visit Canada at least once while he's up there, especially if he's never been outside the US before.

Plus, stripclubs, everwhere.

As someone else already said, DEMF is pretty big. There's gonna be some pretty good artists this year so you don't wanna miss it.

As far as sports go we have 3 choices; Pistons, Red Wings, and U of M. No one watches hockey anymore, but you should be coming to Detroit just in time for the Pistons to reach the finals. Most likely against the Spurs. Which is going to be fucking insane. You could go to those games for the basketball, or just to watch the unfoldings of full-scale riot. All in all, very entertaining.

Clubs are all downtown, food is all downtown, casinos are all downtown...actually pretty much anything that isn't fail in Detroit is all in the downtown area.

And if none of that interests you, there's always the age-old pastime of sitting on a random bench somewhere in the Upper East Side and playing "Spot The Nigger That's Dealing".

Canada is nice, but not Windsor. Why waste time in that hole unless [as already been mentioned] one is between the ages of 19 and 21.

I honestly never found Detroit to be all that exciting

It is kinda fun to just walk around and look at shit, just watch where you walk really.

If you're culturally motivated at all, both Detroit and Toledo to the south have wonderful art museums, Toledo especially. (You may think I'm joking, but I challenge you to find me another 3rd-tier rustbelt city with a Van Gogh wheatfield, an enormous Matisse, and a Ruebens.)

If not, Ann Arbor is a really nice college town with lots of good food and interesting stores.

If you like Baseball, Comerica Park is a really nice place to see a game.
