Socrota Island, Yamen Anonymous
Has Anon ever been to Socrota Island, Yamen?
One of the coolest looking places I've seen.

It's not a very popular destination, though, and Very little travel information available (ie - No hotels?)
Which might have something to do with the location screaming "TERRORISTS FUCKING LIVE HERE. SHIT! RUN!"

Know anything about it?

*snicker*
Oh but it definitely looks alien.

Too bad terrorists *do* live there. Yemen is one of the countries that I'd really avoid. And I've been to Syria and the like...

Er, crippling lack of decent accommodation aside
Apparently US travel to outside of the capital city is prohibited anyway.

Fucking terrorists. I can't forgive them for this.

Can you back that up with a link? I only knew of travel advisories and warning for US citizens, not prohibitions.

I could go there no problem. Terrorists love the Irish. :3

>U.S. embassy employees have been advised to exercise caution when choosing restaurants, hotels or visiting tourist areas in Sana’a in order to avoid large gatherings of foreigners and expatriates. In addition, unofficial travel outside of the capital is not authorized at this time.

That's for embassy employees, not citizens.

It's on my list of places to go before I die. Hoping by then it will not be overrun with sweaty, middle aged anglo-saxon "adventurers" wearing Indiana Jones hats, vests with 9,000 pockets, and gushing about the local culture and how they are so much more "festive" than "we are" (whoever "we" is, you regressive colonialist asshole).

I'm going for the land and wildlife
The cultural blast from the past is secondary, and while unspoiled nature is tops and all the danger/inconvenience factor is a big one.

Boating there from India might be safer than going through Yemen.

hmmm , i saw a video of some austrailin chick surfing there a while ago

lots of toothless islanders. location looks like the biggest problem. if you really wanted to go i guess you could bring hired guns/specialists like the folks over at blackwater to protect you. hardly seems worth it unless youre loaded
