/trv/,

I go to college in chicago, and my friends from NYC want to come visit me after i finish my finals in the spring. Can you give me resources for cheap travel and cheap accommodations? All of the conventional stuff is VERY expensive [apparently 1.3k for a week at a hotel].

Thanks all

you can get a room in a hostel for about 30 a night per person.

You can get a room in a Red Roof Inn for like $35 with a AAA discount. WTF hostels. WTF.

Amtrak from Union Station in Chicago to Penn Station in NYC is $75 if you book far enough in advance.

You can get a Chinatown bus from NYC to Chicago and back, but it's a wicked long trip, like 14 hours or something.

That said, the Amtrak trip is pretty long, too. But at least there's not the risk of the driver falling asleep and driving off the highway (true story!)

Fuck that. You can rent an apartment for a month in Rogers Park or Uptown for $600.
