Moscow is the only ridiculously expensive place for tourists, and even then it's not that much worse than London.

To answer the OP, yes. There's all kinds of historical and geographic shit to see in Russia. Also, don't think that Moscow and St.Petersburg are the only places worth visiting. Link related: http://youtube.com/watch?v=00j0d6Mhw_M

I STRONGLY suggest learning about the language and culture before going. Otherwise you're gonna get raped, overcharged, beaten up in a darkened alley... etc. That country is NOT safe.

That said, depends on what you want to see. I would suggest sticking to the west but some eastern parts of Russia can be very interesting - although they are usually poorer (except some siberian areas which have got filthy rich off of oil). Personally I love Novosibirsk, having been, but that's just me. Most people like Petersburg/Moscow. If you want to freeze your butt off even more, go some place like archangel.

No, that's just propaganda, you gullible fool. Russia is the most cultured, civilized country in the world now. Stop believing everything you see in your western media.

I'm from Russia, I live in St. Petersburg. We get a lot of tourists here, I don't know whether they like or dislike Russia but, for example: A Japanese (man/woman) once asked me where to eat Kievski Meatballs. I think that most tourists don't really know what to do once they get to Russia. And also, some stereotypes confuse them, they want to do things, that Russians haven't done for a very long time.

I translated all I could. Don't know WHAT THE FUCK this means though: "My opinion this not bad variant to travel, if you dont stay at one place..."

^ WTF WAS THAT SHIT?!

Moscow actually has lower overall crime rates than most western European cities. You're safer in Moscow than, say, London, or most big American cities. The bad rep it gets isn't justified, this isn't the chaotic 1990s anymore.

Russia gets millions of tourists every year, yet I've never seen someone make a thread about their visit to Russia. All I hear is these 14 year olds who've never left heir basement talking about how "scary and dangerous" those damn ruskies are, which is obviously not true when you talk to people who've been there and look at statistics (about 1000 people were murdered in Moscow last year, that's out of 10 million people...yeah what a risk, especially considering most of them were probably gang related and not random tourists).

Basically what I'm saying is I liked that China thread where people were talking about their experiences in detail, and I want to hear similar stuff about Russia. Enough of people talking out of their ass and repeating what they read in some British tabloid.

Russian here.
Consider visiting St. Petersburg and Sochi.

Slavs include a broad Range of peoples. They split sometime around 700 AD and there's been a bazillion splits ever since - and it is doubtful they were ever a really united people anyway. Russians, Serbs, Croats, Czechs and Bulgarians (among others probably) all consider themselves Slavs in some way. Not much of a racial label though - kind of like calling all central asians 'mongoloids' or some shit. People are just people (with different cultural habits) and we should stop being sensitive about it, assholes.

The Slavic peoples are an ethnic and linguistic branch of Indo-European peoples
