I know there are lots of Canadians here, so I ask: What's there to do in Toronto? I'll be going there soon, and I need enough to fill up five days worth. Where should I go drink at night? What should I see during the day? Is a day trip to Niagara worth it? What areas should I avoid? Comparatively, is it expensive?

I'm not driving, and I'm already booked in Toronto. Niagara would be a day trip at most, and maybe a quick pop back over the border for some cheap cigarettes.

If male.... run down Church Street wearing nothing but leopard print speedos and shout, "WHAT WHAT, IN THE BUTT!"

If female... run down Church Street with a dildo in each hand and shout something about lesbians.

CN tower is a tourist trap
Don't bother

I don't really mind. There are things that you have to do when you visit that city (Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, slot machines in Vegas, killing for sport in Reno), and the CN Tower is one of those things.

Plus I'm staying three blocks away from it, so I almost have to go.

EAT. Get a traditional Toronto breakfast of a peameal sandwich down at the St. Laurents Market, and just wander around a bit reveling in the food. Hit up Sultan's Tent / Cafe Moroc a few blocks away on Front Street for lunch, and get the most amazing rack of lamb you have ever tasted. Both are within walking distance of the CN Tower if you really want to go there.

Lots of fun stuff to do for dinner, too, depending on your budget and the size of your party.

Hit up the Royal Ontario Museum if you're that kind of traveler, too. There's some phenomenal stuff going on there right now, and the architecture of the new wing is a sight in and of itself. Beyond that, walking down Yonge St. or through Yorkville can be a fun way to burn some time, see some unique people, and really experience the city.

Check out Casa Loma. It's a castle built by a rich guy who lost all his money. Why you would build a castle in Toronto, I don't know. Either way, awesome architecture, nice paintings, and a hidden passageway in the main study to the wine cellar.

Oh, you mean the tumor that the ROM has grown.

Former Torontofag here. Pretty much the only thing Toronto has going for it is that it is the most ethnically diverse city in the world, which means it has endless dining options. Be sure to get some great ethnic foods while you're in town, try something new!

If you're looking for a good place to drink, the area around the University of Toronto campus has some good student bars. The Annex is also good for this sort of thing iirc.

Nobody has mentioned Kensington Market yet. Its probably my favourite area in Toronto, and is certainly worth a look at least.

As for Niagra Falls.... the falls themselves are great, but the rest of the city is just one giant tourist trap. If you know someone who is willing to drive you for a half day trip, go for it. Otherwise, it won't be worth the hassle.

Safety shouldn't be an issue if you have some common sense. Despite its bad reputation, Toronto is a very safe city.
