Hey guys,

I want set up a trip this winter, and I'm thinking Asia. Singapore, Hong Kong, or Tokyo. Right now I'm looking at Hong Kong, as I hear (according to the recent Big Mac index) that things are cheap there, compared to other big cities.

However, round-trip tickets from where I live (Southeast USA) seem to be $1200-$1400. I figured I'll try to go for 1.5-2 weeks, but I was hoping that I could spend less than $1000 on the plane tickets.

Any advice?

1.2 to 1.4k seems to be an OK price unless you go in march/april which are the really cheap seasons to get there. Taking UA to san fran then to HK? Or continental Newark to HK? I've taken both, both are one hell of a long ride.

Living can be cheap if you live on the Kowloon side (a place near mong kok would do) and still be able to go to HK island to see everything. Don't live in New territories, it's a waste of time as you will not be seeing the real HK.
