Trip to China Anonymous
Hi /trv/,

I'm a photographer and I'm planning a trip to China. I'm looking at hotels in Shanghai at the moment. They are pretty cheap and flights aren't expensive either. I'll probably go in november or jan/feb. My budget will be around €3000 (probably more if I go in jan/feb).

Anyway, I'm asking you what you think is the most beautiful city in China, why and if it's worth going to there for a photographer (architecture/scenery/street photography). Place will preferably be cheap in terms of flights (from Europe to destination) hotel and needs proper public transportation (I don't have drivers licence).

I'll be staying for 2 weeks, maybe 3.

Pic related; it's where I want to go!

Shanghai = Most European-Looking City in China

Check out Yun Nan province in the South west of China, bordering Indochina and Tibet over 100 of China's 155 ethnic minorities are found there and the scenery ranges from Tibetan villages in the mountains of the north west, to Thai-style stilted bamboo villages in the rainforest of the Southern bit (xi shuang ban na). There's also the world heritage listed city of Li Jiang which still retains alot of traditional Chinese buildings. Also Hangzhou is a pretty nice city, and Beijing's hutong (alleyway) area is really charming around Hou hai and you also have the Imperial Palace and all that jazz.

the hutongs still exist? They were ripping them all down when I was there in 2005. At least, they were ripping them all down in the area of the Drum Tower, that is.

They still do exist. Some has changed into shops and such but there're some left. I don't see anything interesting about it though, except Houhai.

I just come back from Shi Du in Beijing. It has pretty nice scenery. Maybe you should give it a try?

Only in Shanghai and HK.
