I went to Croatia last year and stayed for a week. It is beautiful and the weather along the coast is amazing. Dubrovnik ranks up there with one of my favorite cities in the world. Definitely go to the old walled city of Dubrovnik. Walk around day and night. Croatia is a safe country. Me and a friend checked out the cities at night all the time and never experienced anything unsafe or strange. While you are there, you must eat cuttlefish risotto, or some other kind of risotto. It's good, I promise. Croatian seafood and especially mollusks are amazingly fresh and tasty. Take a walk on top of the walls of the city to get some nice views of the roofs and the water. If you have a chance, go to Zagreb as well. It has some run-down areas, but their is a main road (forget the name) that cuts through it that has plenty of eateries and shops. Also, open-air markets are a must.
