Paris food.

My friend went to Paris for three days, just 3. And he said he spent $300 on food... Is that right? He said it was expensive but my LORD. $100 a DAY on food?!

Just for himself? He obviously went to restaurants for every meal. If so, $100 a day isn't that outrageous for Western Europe.

I'm a Frenchfag and i can tell you he only went to really good restaurants. (or was stupid enough to dine where all tourists dine).
Average restaurant should be 30€ max (wine included).
Fancy restaurant can be 90€.
Of course there's always McDonalds at 6€.
Also remember that YOU DON'T TIP in France for restaurants. Except in fancy ones.

Service may be "compris", but if the service is good, or you sit there for an hour with a beer waiting for someone, yes, you leave a tip.
Remember that the personnel are on less than standard minimum wage as restaurants are allowed to pay their employees less than for example an office puke on the same shift.
30 euros a head is still quite a lot. A very good meal can be had from menus for 14 to 20 euros, and I can take my whole family out (6 people) for between 60 and 110 euros - generally depending how drunk i get ;) ).
God knows where you friend went to run up such a bill - this is generally what I pay in a month for lunch (ok, not in Paris but Levallois Perret, 500 yards from the Périphérique) on the immediate outskirts of Paris.
The only time I ran up the equivalent of a $100 a head meal was in Helsinki, on a mission for the French Post Office where myself and a Danish collegue got completly hammered - all on the tab of the French Government ;)

Unless he is a fatty dining on McDonald's, thats not outrageous at all, for Paris or otherwise.

I live in Paris and this is outrageous.

USD != euros

He could easily have spent 100 dollars a day on food which is significantly less than 100 euros. Though, now, with the downturn of the euro, I'm not too sure exactly if this remains true. It all depends on when he went to Paris.
