Traveling to Nagoya, Japan for study abroad is nearly just a month away. Anyone have any advice for me who have been to Japan or maybe some general advice? I've never really traveled abroad before or been on a plane before.

That's okay, they aren't so bad. Only thing you should know about flight is that when you're taking off it's supposed to be perfectly smooth. If you feel any bumps or jolts then it's going to crash before it hits the end of the runway, so you best stick your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye.

get the fuck out. Japanese people will hate you for trying to be like them and failing. no one over 14 yo watches anime there.

Before you enter the airplane, be sure to remove your shoes. It's very impolite and disrespectful to wear shoes inside the plane.

Im going for the first time as well, leaving in September and coming back next July. Waseda Daigaku, Tokyo.

Dont listen to half these guys commenting. My japanese roommate this past year and all his friends watched anime all the time in the US and thought nothing of it. One was a total hardass but he'd always be seen watching the next Naruto...

Dont get me wrong, I fucking hate Naruto, but it was funny to see. To the japanese, its just as common as soaps here, or reality shows, etc. It doesnt really get noticed.

now, there are otaku of course, who take it way over the line :P just dont be like them and youll be alright

Ahh...Naruto is a kids show in ALL asian countries. The only real place where people over the age of 12 watch it is the US

Unless you have a power level of OVER 9000 and no control over it at all, most young Japanese people won't mind you liking anime. Many of them will find you interesting, though it is in the way a circus bear is interesting.

lulz, my dad is something like 46ish and regularly watches shows like gunslinger girl, ghost in the shell, bleach and big o.

its hilarious because I dont even watch anime, aside from DBZ when I was about 10 (now 19).
