Ok fags, i'm a gay bloke from the UK who wants to marry a guy in Maryland, US, but obviously we have to go through a Civil Partnership.

He wants to come here to England and become a british citizen, but i'm a little confused over his legal rights and how long he has to stay over here to take the stupid Test.

Does anyone know, if we do a civil partnership, would he HAVE to go back at the end of his 6-months OR would he require to go back to america and then come back? Because you must remain in the UK for three years to become a citizen.

Anyone got any info for me, please?

I have a friend in London now who's "extending" his visa because he's in the process of becoming a resident. So, it doesn't seem like you _have_ to go back. These questions are usually best answered by the immigration department website of your country.

Go ask your fascist government.

He doesn't have to go back. If you have the civil partnership, he is afforded dual nationality, and can stay indefinitely. You'll have to apply for spousal visa (ahoy trip to the passport/immigration office at Victoria!) for him (or he will) but it effectively keeps him here and grants him all the rights and privileges of a UK citizen.

Not sure if america allows dual citizenship. Im not sure about civil unions & getting permanent residency.

The U.S. doesn't honor dual citizenship. It sucks, but that is the world we live in.

The US doesn't specifically state anything on dual citizenship, but tolerates it. You have to enter and leave the US with your US passport though.

are you assuming because he is gay that he hates anyone with beliefs?

Totally wrong.

When you have your civil partnership he will have to go back to the US to apply for a civil partners visa. Once it has processed he can live in the UK for 2 years. Once 2 years is up, he can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain after passing a test. After another year he can apply for citizenship.

Listening to these retards is a good way to get your boyfriend banned from the country for 10 years.

I think that if you get naturalized as a US citizen you have to renounce your old citizenship.

Yes it does, there are tons of Irish and Canadian dual citizens.

Ireland has a great citizen policy, if you are a hard working immigrant who escaped a horrible country for the oppurtunity to make something of yourself good luck, while any jerkoff from Brooklyn with an Irish grandparent just has to fill out a form

Technically, you make an oath doing so, but they never actually enforce it by making sure you actually go through the process of renouncing former citizenships.

But, you're comparing someone who's working to naturalize (in theory) with no prior connections to the country to jure sanguinis (blood right/citizenship by decent), which is something you'd have no matter where you were born, because of your family's connections to the country.

Ugh. This is what happens when a kid starts resenting that his parents made him go to church.

If you're going to lurk a board about visiting different cultures, be a little more open-minded.

Not true. I naturalised as an American citizen (my husband is American, i'm British). My husband also has British citizenship so it's perfectly possible to have both. Only thing you have to do is use your Brit passport when entering Britain and American passport when entering America.

Here's a better idea OP. Keep you and your fellow faggot in the UK and dont infest my country.

But, if the naturalization ceremony was dueling another immigrant for citizenship, that would be pretty win.

Who fucking cares about being married? I mean why do you care so much about it? You're together, right? Isn't that what's important?
>> Anonymous
>>66134
I believe they care because they want equal rights to hetrosexual couples. I say just let them fucking get married, what is the big fucking deal? I mean Jesus fucking Christ, the only problem who care so deeply about this shit is Christfags.

I support anything that goes against Christianity and this includes Feminism as well. So I'm a male feminist when it comes to Christianity.

Maybe they want to be able to live together, not just spend a few months here and there whilst travelling and not being able to work?
