Hi /trv/, I'm going to Japan next week for a month stay (staying in Kamata, Ota, Tokyo) for my first time, and would like some pointers regarding transportation (train and buses), I've read japan-guide and related sites, but I'd like a perspective from someone here who has been in Japan or is currently living there.
As for JR, English is being written in all the marks, so it will be easy for you to use it most.Tokyu's routes is enough to confuse me.
Get some guides or check online for things to do. Find the name and get a subway map. Every line wont be labeled but most of them should be. It is very easy to navigate through japan using the trains and if you get lost just ask someone for help - just point to the train and say the name of the place you want to go.Get a pasmo or suica card or such to make it easier. You can put money onto it and the machines have the instructions in english so you cant fuck up that bad. Even if you get off the wrong dam train station go to the help counter and the guys will help you out and might even take you to where you need to be if you are that lost.
