Can one throw himself into London with not a lot of money and live with dignity for four months? I'm not an Eurofag, would I need a work permit for anything paying more than minimum wage? I'm a freelance translator and proofreader where I live, could I work freelance there with no red tape and nothing but a passport, résumé and sample of past works? Could I rent a small place? I want to go asap and stay there only until mid-February.

And for future reference, is it easier to get a work permit if I'm already there, even if as a tourist?

God no.

>I'm not an Eurofag, would I need a work permit for anything paying more than minimum wage?
Non-EU citizens need a work permit for ANY job.

>I'm a freelance translator and proofreader where I live, could I work freelance there with no red tape and nothing but a passport, résumé and sample of past works?
Yes but you'd still need a visa.

>Could I rent a small place?
In London, every place is a small place.

>And for future reference, is it easier to get a work permit if I'm already there, even if as a tourist?
No but it would be easier to go to interviews if you were already here...
