I have a desire Anonymous
To just want to leave everything, etc, etc. and go live out in the mountains (but not too far from civilization) and not have a proper job and live sustainably and self-sufficiently.

The house on the left is what I would like to live in - the "Z-Glass House" from Tumbleweed Houses (see: http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/houses_zglass.html), which would cost $40-80,000 to build and is 400 sqft. in size. A solar panel would be on the roof, and a garden outside that would provide fruits and vegetables. A well would bring in water.

I wouldn't need much money, but for finances I could sell prints of my artwork online (on DeviantArt or something) or maybe do some freelance work.

Location-wise, I'd like some place in San Mateo county (more on that next post). That way I could live in the mountains but still be within a 20-mi. drive of a BART station (Millbrae in this case) with easy access to San Francisco.

So /trv, I ask, how feasible do you think this is? And how much could I expect to pay for a ~2,000 sqft. lot in rural San Mateo?

These are some seemingly decent locations that I have found.

>> Anonymous
>>16902
More like twice a week. For groceries and shopping and entertainment and things.

Not weird either, just lazy. And this is the best I could come up with so as to not actually work and pay as few taxes as possible. And for that, I think its a pretty fucking awesome idea.

HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE YOUR BOMBS? AND WHAT WILL YOU BE DENOUNCING IN YOUR MANIFESTO?

HOW DO YOU BUY THINGS WITH NO JOB GUY? I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CAN BUY FROM GROCER BUT YOU HAVE NO JOB IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY TO LIVE LIKE THIS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE WHAT A WASTE THAT IS BECAUSE YOU COULD JUST BUY AN XBEX NOW AND LIVE IN THE BASEMENT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE RIGHT? DO THAT.

food, shelter, healthcare etc. etc. are all provided by the state

but you have to work lol
>> Anonymous
Somehow I doubt that having the bathroom joined to the kitchen like that would be especially hygienic.
>> Anonymous
>>16947

YEAH RIGHT. You can't me make me do nothin. son of a bitch. what are they gonna do if i dont work? fuckin son of a bitc
>> Anonymous
>>16951
Its not "joined" to the kitchen. Its a separate room and a layout fairly common to all but 5,000 sqft. suburban McMansions.

And presumably, you would close the door when using the toilet.

>>16951

I looked at some old US government built homes with toilets in the pantry. A room off of the kitchen with built in shelves for food storage and a shitter in the corner of said 7x7-or-so room.

wtf

what if longrange hobos come along and raid your house.. they'd fuck your windows up and leave you fucked
>> Anonymous
>>17071
I don't really think thats quite a serious threat (and I hav sum swordz just in case). Plus I'd also build the house on a hill so as to get a nice view and prevent break-ins.
>> Anonymous
>>16888
What happens when something happens and your house explodes. You need backup reserves to rebuild. How about a famine in your backyard too?
>> Anonymous
>>17122
Hence the money saved in investments. And realistically, the fruits and such in the yard would be more of a hobby than anything. I'd still buy most of my crap at the grocery store.

I HAVE A DREAM...
>> Anonymous
Seems like a good plan, except:

1. DeviantArt is fail, and you won't make much money off it, either.
2. Are you basically going to be a hermit or something?
>> Anonymous
>>17187
1. Yeah, I wasn't so sure about DA. I see prints there going for up to $50, but I have no idea as to how much of that goes back to the artist.

2. No. I'd still be in contact with people often enough, I'd just have more "control" over it.
>> Anonymous
Property in that area is expensive as fuck
>> Anonymous
>>17204
Unfortunately true. But its worth it in my books, so long as I can get a small plot of land for <$100,000, as its...

1. a rural area with no rednecks
2. close to one of the awesomest cities ever
3. pleasant climate
4. beautiful landscape

OP, there was a good thread about this topic a few weeks ago.
As is, you're dreaming. Unless you have serious money in your "investments", you are not going to have money to buy your food at any grocery store. I know several people who live this lifestyle, and it is very hard work, which relies seriously on you inventing a strong system of self reliance both for food production, upkeep of your house, repairs to your transportation (hello bicycle!), and so on.
Do you have any idea how much *work* goes into farming enough food to feed a person year round, making allowances for bad crops, late rains, and other such problems?
Many people dream of living away from civilization, very few can even begin to manage it.
Unless of course you have a fortune which can sustain a "pretend" lifestyle of this sort.

I was looking at those homes, wish the bigger model had pics of the inside, but I also noted,

where the fuck does the clothes washer fit? I dont suspect there are many laundromats around middle of noplace California.

Washington state is better.
