I live in Memphis, TN currently and my extended family lives in Dallas, TX. I've been wanting to move there recently, but since I am in college, it's easier said than done. I'm majoring in Journalism and, if I wanted to transfer, the only school in Dallas that offers Journalism is apparently SMU. Are there any other schools that I'm not aware of besides UT-Dallas and SMU?

Where's a good place to live? I'm looking at around Arlington, since it's in between Dallas and Ft. Worth.

How much money should I save before moving down there? Job prospects? How's the gas situation?

Arlington would be ok. Gas is in the 3.10-3.35 rangeish. As for the college aspect, I wouldn't know. UTD and SMU are both great schools though.

Grad student at SMU, so I'll give some insight on that...

Apartments around SMU are anywhere from $600-900 a month depending on how close. I live a block from campus and pay around $750 a month...you can go right across North Central Expessway off Greenville and find cheaper. Just don't go too far east, east side of Greenville is ghetto..

Gas is really not that bad...usually the same or only slightly more expensive than Houston.

Traffic can be bad at peak times, so I would suggest looking for places closer to campus before commuting form Arlington or Plano or something.

Not sure on general job prospects, but the Dallas legal market is currently in the shitter.

Arlington is a shithole

gas is cheap in DFW though, anywhere around greenville will be decent rent wise

save a 1k-2k prior to you move and it'll be more than enough to get you setup in a nice apartment/house
