My Dad and I are considering a trip next summer where we take a plane to Moscow, Russia (spend a 1 or 2 days) and then ride the Trans-Siberian Railway to Ulaan Baatar, Mongolia. Then spend a little time there before going to Arkhangai Province and do some horse trekking.

Anyone on /trv/ done either of these things? Can you tell me some more about it?

You will be kill by demons.

Five days in a train trip must be so exciting!

6 days, but if you break to the trip up and visit the towns along the way I'd imagine it's pretty amazing

I hope you're white, because if you venture outside of a big city in Russia and you're not white, the locals will kill you in your sleep.

Also, if you're in a big city in Russia and you're not white, you'll be killed or at least beaten savagely as you walk down the street.

Complexion isn't enough. If you don't have weird slavic eyes and if you have dark hair you'll be killed because they'll think you're an armenian/turk and if you have a big nose don't even think about it

I'm Mongolian.
Ulaanbaatar is a shithole.
I see white people going by and I just think, WTF are they doing here? Couldn't they have gone to fucking Hawaii, or somewhere in Europe?

Nooooo. Retards gotta act stupid and come to Ulaanbaatar, where littering is like pissing in an ocean of piss.

Countryside isn't bad though. In fact, it's beautiful. If you're gonna go "horse trekking" bring insect repellent (mosquitos). Also, drink the "airag". It only has like 2-3% alcohol.

Got any questions about Mongolia, ask.

What do you think are the implications of the drunken election riots last month? Is alcohol a threat to Mongolian democracy?
>> Anonymous
>>46851
no implications, just drunkards who got played by a politician with a bit of money.

mongols are all drunkards, doesn't look like that's going to be changing anytime soon. as far as "threats to democracy", the biggest would be corruption.

i'm mongolian too but i've only been to mongolia once cause I was born in moscow

you're an idiot, or just joking, so I hope it's the 2nd

We plan to spend most of our time in the countryside. When would be a good time during the summer to go exactly?
>> Anonymous
>>46861
any time but winter, it can get extremely cold

i think one year like 20% of all mongolian cattle died cause it was so damn cold (forgot what year though)

Russia has the second largest number of immigrants in the world, and most of them are from Central Asia (ie. coloured). This is the equivalent of saying if you go to America you'll get killed by black gangsters, or if you go to China you'll die of the bird flu.

>>46869
this is true and I honor you for not being an idiot

>>46868 Russia has the second largest number of immigrants in the world, and most of them are from Central Asia (ie. coloured).

Nice sounding argument, except that Russians can be provoked into a xenophobic frenzy simply by seeing someone from another part of THEIR OWN COUNTRY! For example, people from the Caucasus are referred to as "blacks" and are met with intense hostility when they move to the "wrong" part of Russia. So yeah, lots of slightly less white people moving around inside Russia, and the majority of them don't get burned alive by a mob of skinheads seconds after resettling. That still doesn't mean it's safe for an ACTUAL black person to visit Russia.

> This is the equivalent of saying if you go to America you'll get killed by black gangsters.

Is that what they say in Russia about America? I'm not surprised.

lol

you've obviously never been there and have been reading what bbc and cnn says
>> Anonymous
>>46878

Yes, those, and many other media organizations, and also firsthand reports from actual Russians who moved to America. Thanks to your eloquent "lol", however, I know now that it was all an elaborate web of lies constructed by the Jews. Thank you for helping me understand this. I can't believe how gullible I was.

Pushkin, one of the great 19th century Russian authors, was black. They were so freaked out by this that you have to go back to the 1820's to find a drawing of Pushkin where he looks anything less than totally white.

Wow calm down there son, every country has its problems. And actually, black people are more safe than "Caucasian" looking people, because of the whole Chechnya/Muslim deal.

>except that Russians can be provoked into a xenophobic frenzy
lolwtf? Nice generalization. You sound like Soviet propaganda from the 40s and 50s except reversed. There used to be a joke: America: "You have to line up for bread, you can't even feed your people" -- Russia: "Well you are lynching negros".
>> Anonymous
>>46893
yeah, it's pretty funny how everyone knows what propaganda is yet still falls for it

he was 1/4 black which is hardly nothing

Western propaganda is more subtle and less blunt than cold war propaganda. They're thinking up new, innovative ways to brainwash us every day. They don't need to convince us all, just the masses. If something becomes common knowledge it doesn't matter if it's true or not.

Racist attacks ARE a problem in Russia, but not to the extent you hear in the fear mongering media.
>> Anonymous
>>46910
they're as big of a problem as the KKK is in the U.S

virtually invisible, but a very rare chance that you see it
>> Anonymous
Canadafag here, I used to hang out with skinheads at school. They're all talk, trust me. None of them actually had the balls to do anything about their retarded racist views. The rare few who do are criminals either way and would just be raping people and robbing banks if they weren't attacking people based on their race.

Russia is expensive. You should have gone earlier - in the last three years there has been a dramatic increase in tourism to Russia. However, it is terrific and very contrasting. Well worth it IMO, although not without its problems.

Sad isn't it?

Also, I recommend staying in the West. Siberia is wealthier now because of oil but many oblasts (regions) have been left behind...
>> Anonymous
>>47360
you obviously only read stuff on news articles and wikipedia, and have not been there

yes while the eastern regions aren't like the western regions, it doesn't mean it's totally not worth visiting, in fact some of my favorite times were in the east

vladivostok for example is great

I agree with visiting at 2012

Well, compared to Australia maybe, but coming from a civilized nation I observed it to be very similar to what would be described as "shithole".
