Hay /trv/! Going to Las Vegas for the first time next week. I've already bought tickets to Zumanity but, really, have no idea what to do other than gamble.

Restaurant recommendations? Shows that are worth seeing?

Pic relatively unrelated.

Zumanity is terrible. If you want titties, go see Crazy Horse Paris next door at MGM. If you want bizarre French-Canadian circus bullshit, go see either O, Love, or Mystere.

As for restaurants, you listed nothing for a budget. Picasso is brilliant but most people can't afford that.

I'm not seein' the show for the titties, actually. I get to see enough of those dancing burlesque. (in b4 no girls on the internet)

As far as food, budget isn't a huge issue. I'm a foodie at heart and do not intend to spend my first time off of school and work since December eating Olive Garden and Planet Hollywood.

You want food, huh?

Basically everything at Wynn is great but expensive. Try Country Club restaurant for lunch or (on weekdays) Tableau.

For breakfast, Bouchon (Venetian) is expensive but the best in town.

Most buffets are the same thing. Wynn, Bellagio, Paris, Rio, and (yes) Planet Hollywood (former Aladdin, a hotel not a restaurant) all have better than average buffets.

Do not eat anything at Sahara, Imperial Palace, or Flamingo. Most Bally's restaurants are mediocore. Circus-Circus is pretty bad except for the steakhouse which is non-circusy and actually well liked. If you need to eat cheap, I've eaten at almost every place in Excalibur and lived though the buffet is not recommended.

Thank you! I've heard fantastic things about Wynn in general and especially Country Club; I'll be sure to check it out.

Bouchon looks great; I adore Thomas Keller. And, although breakfast appears pricey, as you suggested, dinner really seems quite reasonable from what I saw on the Venetian's website. Any feedback on menu?

I always try to steer clear of buffets: lukewarm and bland. I've only ever truly enjoyed one buffet (Maui Prince Hotel Prime Rib and Seafood Buffet - Makena, HI) but seeing as it's part of the Las Vegas experience, I'll probably end up at one.

Any off-the-beaten path places? I'm not staying on the strip (at a friend's weekend home in Henderson), so I don't mind something out of the way if truly unique.

I don't eat at expensivefag places really. I know several people who do, however. Most everyone who goes on about Bouchon goes on about it for breakfast, I don't know about much else. As French/gourmet dining rooms go, Wynn's Alex and Bellagio's Picasso are two of the hoitiest-toitiest places in town.

Bellagio's Circo is good too.

As for Wynn, avoid Corsa the Italian place. Everything else is expensive but worth it. The buffet is the most expensive one in town on most days but easily the best. Very very crowded on Sunday brunch, though.

Most the well known out-of-the-way stuff are bars and shit. Outside of a few places at resident-oriented casinos, this town is crap beyond the tourist area. Although almost everybody thinks Hank's at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson is the best high-falutin' steakhouse in the state.

I'm not of the attitude that it has to be expensive to be good. Regardless of the price or reputation, I will not eat someplace that has bitchy attitude (I was a food reviewer for a time and developed a strong intolerance for haughty, nasty wait staff) or whose food is swimming in grease and will make me feel like shit later.

Are you from the area or just a frequent visitor?

Inattentive wait staff seems to be a common trait in this town. I thought it was because the union they belong to is huge and a local political machine, but then I've gotten crap from non-union resort restaurants, too.

The gimmick behind Wynn is that all the chefs they boast about, while not as well-known as Emeril, Puck, etc, all work there an expected amount. So there's a good chance the dude whose name is on the door is actually making your food. Some of the chefs like Alex Stratta (Alex) and Marc LaRusso (Tableau) are guys the owner hired from his previous hotels. Stratta used to have a highly-rated joint at Mirage, LaRusso used to be a chef at the Aqua restaurant at Bellagio, etc. Daniel Boloud is the exception, he isn't there as often as the other chefs, but his apprentice or stand-in or whatever is highly rated.

And I'm a little bit of both.

Seriously, you're wonderful. I hope you hang around /ck/ too because you seem to know your shit and don't sound like a pretentious food-fag.

A few other places I've heard good things about: Rosemary's, Double Down, and Beauty Bar. Concerning the latter, I have a soft spot for girly vodka martinis, hipsters, mod decor, kitsch, and manicures. Makes me miss Palm Springs. -Sigh-

I'm not really a /ck/ kind of person. I live here, but I'm too poor to eat out, I just know a lot of RichPants Moneybags who always stay at four/five star hotels here and do fancypants stuff, so I get a lot of second-hand but useful info.

I don't live too far from Rosemary's but have never been there. I'm not much of a bar person, but I'd take Freakin' Frog over Double Down. Frog is more of a traditional bar and music stage setup, were DD is more like a scummier divebar where people drink until they can't see straight and stagger around all over the place until they throw up.

If you want crazy shit, see Hogs & Heifers downtown, where the women not only dance on the bartop, they yell "GIMME FUCKIN BEER" and you could lose teeth if you're too close. I seem to remember hearing about a wall of bras.

I've seen Coyote Ugly once and that was one too many times. I think I'll pass. :o)

Somewhere in Henderson there is a little place called shabu-shabu paradise which is supposed to have the best Japanese food out of japan (least thats what my friends, who of course lived in japan for several years have said). I don't know if you like japanese food or not, but if you do then its the place to go. It's all that really comes to mind when i think of out there restaurants worth mentioning.

I found their menu and it definitely does look good. Decent Japanese food is something I desperately miss after moving away from Chicago (to central Ohio-- eugh); I browse 4chan. Naturally, I'm a bit of a weeaboo at heart.
