Aeroplan Problems Anonymous
I frequently travel between my home on Vancouver Island in BC and a small town in the Northwest Territories. Last week I tried to book a flight through Aeroplan and was told that the destinations I wanted to travel between could not be achieved.
To do the closest airports would go through Air Canada and partners Comox-> Calgary-> Yellowknife, and then flying via another service to my final destination.
Due to changes not publicly announced, I cannot leave from Comox until at least October. Other changes make it impossible to route through Calgary in the "forseeable future". This effectively cuts out an entire territory (albeit a lightly populated one) from using their service, though the customers are currently unaware of this.

When I attempted to solve the issue, it was determined that I was not booking far enough in advance - September is too soon to be booking for. I asked if booking for next July would work and was told they couldn't, due to differing schedules between Aeroplan, Air Canada, and their partners. So booking at the maximum allowable timeframe does nothing.
It also became clear that what used to be an under 25,000 point trip (Comox -> Grand Prairie) is now 69,000 points, again without notifying customers of the massive increase.
After over an hour talking to no less than six agents, one supervisor, and an unanswered call to the headquarters in Montreal, I was given a number to "Customer Solutions".
This is apparently an internal-only line, as I was told in no uncertain terms that I should not be contacting them and to give the name of the agent who supplied the number. After another half hour with this department, I found out that the reason they haven't told people about these changes (dropping of 3x daily flights from a major airport) is so that they don't lose what business they have and that none of this will be made publicly known for quite some time.

Finding the answers I received to be unsatisfactory and the issue I had personally to be unresolved, I am now giving this internal number to the public so that you can deal with any issues you have with them.

Aeroplan "Customer Solutions"

1-866-812-6436

If they wanted to solve problems, customers would be able to reach the people with the proper levels to disclose this kind of information.

I lol'd. Thanks foreign ownership restrictions! I fucking hate the bleeding-heart liberals that run this country. And I'm a civil servant.
