Boston.I'll be going in a couple months. Does it suck? If no, what is there to see?
>> Anonymous
You can see some pretty cool historical stuff, but other than that it's just another big American city.
>> Anonymous
I'm living there starting in september or so (collegefag). What should I expect? I live in LA now, but i'm from chicago/amish country ohio, so i'm used to bitter cold.

Expect somewhere thats better than LA but alot colder

Anything Specific? How/were is shopping (lolfag)? What makes it better than LA? (Don't worry, I'm not in denial; I know LA is the worst city in the world.)

Bostonfag here. First off, see all the historic stuff. Go to the North End for great Italian food and pastries. Head to Faneuil Hall and Quincy market during the day for shopping and street entertainment(see pic.)Also good shopping at the Prudential Center. Two good museums: Fine Art and Science. There's a lot of college kids in the area so it's very lively. If you head over to Cambridge you can visit Harvard and MIT.

Boston Duck Tours. You ride around town in a boat with wheels.

They have those in Philly too. They're amphibious.

Bitterly cold in winter, but nice in the spring and summer.

And THE fuckwin 4th celebration.
>> Anonymous
If you want Red Sox tickets, buy them now. Even the bleacher seats are usually sold out a week in advance.

There's cool stuff on some of the Boston Harbor islands. Take the ferry to Provincetown for fuckwin beaches.

The New England Aquarium is another great museum-y thing to do.

For Halloween, get thy ass to Salem. If you don't have a car, the MBTA commuter rail runs to Salem.

Provincetown is fun but it is a haven for gays. And if you're still around for Halloween definitely go to Salem.

DO THIS. When you decide to hit the Esplanade for the Fourth of July, get there in the morning.
>> Anonymous
>>5433
Yes, 4th of July is fuckwin. When they play the 1812 overture all kinds of fireworks go off.
>> Anonymous
>>5437
As far as I know, Boston is the only city in the world to regularly perform the 1812 Overture as composed, including REAL FUCKING ARTILLERY and ALL THE CHURCH BELLS IN THE CITY as part of the piece. It's amazing.

Ever since I saw the Pops 4th, I've tried to emulate the timed cannon fire in my home displays. I come close with my custom flash salutes, but the Pops still own me. ;_;
>> Anonymous
>>5489
They're the Pops. That's like trying to dunk on Michael Jordan (when he was good).

On 1/31/2007, the city of Boston did, indeed, begin to suck.
>> Anonymous
>>5508
Why?
>> Anonymous
>>5503
Well I beat them in sound intensity. My timing was off though. Too bad. I'd rather go back and see them, but that's costly, and there's alot of people. Plus, shooting my own show has it's own thrills.

Still, Bean Town does the 4th right.
Great restaurants there too.

Are you BAWWWWWWing over Deval Patrick still?

How are the cops in Boston?
>> Anonymous
>>5535
They're decent unless you're wearing a Yankees cap or driving a car with New York plates.
>> Anonymous
>>5536
Alright, thanks. I'm from LA, so I'm looking forward to living somewhere where police might not shoot you for signaling improperly.

Four areas to stay the FUCK away from: Roxbury, Mattapan, Dorchester, Columbia Point.

Thanks. I was worried about this; in LA the best safety advice is stay out of a place if you've heard the name the radio. You're a credit to your city.

(soon-to-be bostonfag)

I was born in Chicago, so no matter what east-coast devil food you put in front of me, I already know where my heart lies.

My experience with pizza is that unless you're used to Dominos or Pizza Hut, the stuff you grow up with is always your favorite.

go to the Museum of Science (it's on the Green Line on the T, Science Park). In my opinion it's in the top three science museums in the nation. Unless you're not into science..
Check out the gift shop though.

If you have access to a car, take Route 1 north to I-95, up to Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It's a great little city (~35k people) with a bunch of great restaurants and shops.
>> Anonymous
Things I recommend: Fanueil Hall, Fenway Park, the Prudential Center. It's a great city, I love going in a few days every summer.
>> Anonymous
>>5603
I did that for years as a kid. It makes living near Boston full-time that much more fun, like living at the beach (well, not Revere).

Visit the "Top of the Hub" at the new Hancock tower (it's the hueg all-glass skyscraper in the OP's pic). On a clear day, you can see Cape Cod and Maine from there.

Got voted one of the top ten cool towns in the country or some such, didn't it?
>> Anonymous
>>5633
Yeah, and it's on the "distinctive destinations" list. Local here: There's also cool stuff in York, Maine (keep following I-95 North) and Dover, New Hampshire (take US 4/NH 16/Spaulding Turnpike).

How come none of you have mentioned ST PATTY'S DAY!
