I lived in Chicago for 3 years. Longest 3 years of my life.

And to think things actually got worse once I left (at least as far as transit despair, building of shitty condos, and bank branches replacing cool shops goes)
>> Anonymous
Toronto is a better Chicago than Chicago is.

Ron of Japan. It's like stepping back in time to the 80s, when everybody's exposure to Japan consisted of watching Black Rain a dozen times. Best teppanyaki in the city, and the Super Mai Tais will get you so fucked up.

The pizza. Fuck New York pizza, I love Chicago deep-dish.

The bars.

The Irish.

agreed

chicagofag here, i still think chicago is one of the coolest cities in the US but it still sucks. time & weather are predictably inpredictable.

Yeah, I live here and I figure bad weather is the least of my worries. My folks want to move to Florida and I say more power to 'em. I personally like to stay away from hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, earth quakes, tsunamis, mudslides, droughts and the like, and near THE LARGEST FRESH WATER SUPPLY IN THE FUCKING WORLD.

The only modern depiction of Chicago I've seen is in the Dresden Files. Are you White Council?

Good: The Art Institute

Bad: Terrible Corruption (but that goes for most Illinois as a whole)

What are the pigeons like in Chicago?

They get pwned by these. Supposedly there was a problem with all the pigeons and the state thought it lulzy to release a few hawks to help with the population of pigeons which is now almost equal to the number of mexicans here too. What'll they send after them???

The Lawrence Arms are from Chicago, theyre one of my favorite bands.

Love: Chicago Symphony, reasonably good restaurants for not too much $$, Binnie's. Foie gras ban goes on the love list because it's so lulzy.

Hate: Endless suburban hell outside of downtown, faux-sophisticated pretentiousness in parts of the Loop area, appalling racial segregation, aggressive homeless people, destruction of Meigs Field, overrated public transportation system, shitty climate.
>> Anonymous
>>11413
GTFO!
>> Anonymous
hate: it's fucking cold? it's next to a nasty-ass lake and (hurr hurr) it's windy. everyone who has lived there and moved away is a pretentious dick about it, leading me to ask why they don't just return.
>> Anonymous
are there any mental asylums there? if so, what is their average escapee rate?
>> Anonymous
I love stuff like Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium and Navy Pier, the nice parts of downtown like the Loop. Love the lake, but only in summer.

Hate the weather. It's so unpredictable and cold. Can't imagine living in a place with regular and predictable weather though.

The Great Chicago Fire happened to Chicago. That shit was bad.

I JUST REALIZED I'D NEVER SEEN A PIGEON HERE D:
THANKS FOR THAT
>> Anonymous
I really don't understand people who complain about weather. Don't you have more important things to worry about than whether it's a bit cold out. Don't you have heating in your house and in your car? Is life TOO good for you?
I just can't fathom why in the world this is so important to most Americans. It's all we talk about. Small talk consists of "Boy, it's a little nippy out. My life is so horrible *COMPLAIN COMPLAIN COMPLAIN*"
Jesus!

i thought it was like that everywhere
the only thing EVERYONE has in common is weather.
>> Anonymous
>>11483
i'm from california. we dont have weather. in my city the coldest month is january, averaging 57 degrees, the hottest is september averaging 75. and only 23 inches of rain a year (no snow).
>> Anonymous
>>11481Don't you have heating in your house and in your car? Is life TOO good for you?
> car

The question was about Chicago, not Winnetka, Skokie, or some other suburb. If you live in the center of a city you may not want to drive everywhere. If you're not driving, you're probably walking to some extent. If you walk, you get exposed to the elements. People who have lived in CHICAGO understand this.

But fatass doesn't know anything about walking.

love about chicago: Well I went to a cereal restaurant there, that was pretty good.

I've only ever been to the airport but everyone I've ever interacted with from there has been an asshole.

The white people are the biggest douchebags I've ever had the displeasure of talking with and the black people are some of the ghettoest pieces of shits ever. I have no interest in ever leaving the confines of the airport when I'm in Chicago
>> Anonymous
>>11580
I guess the blacks thing is more or less right, but I guess you just got unlucky with the whites. Midwesterners are some of the nicest people you'll meet, and that includes the ones that live in Chicago proper.

love: flat top grill, house of sushi, and the crazy squirrels that flock around my dumpster every morning.

Hate: EVERYTHING else. Fuck all you cities so densely populated it takes 2 hours to park, fuck inflated prices and cost of living, fuck the CTA bitching about underfunding and it taking an extra hour to get anywyere, and most of all fuck you wind. Chicago feels colder than antartica because of the fucking windchill.
>> Anonymous
Disclaimer: I live here so my opinions are not fair or balanced.

Love: EVERYTHING. (FUCK U>>11832)
Hate: Nothing. Sure, it has its good share of problems and annoyances, but I look past them all. Kind of like what you do when you're in a strong, lasting relationship. It's my home and I don't feel good anywhere else.

Chicago is my favorite city in the US.
Everything baout it is amazing except for the weather, but that is totally bearable given how great the city is

also, I saw someone get shot there - awesome

Also a Chicagofag but presently going to college in Ohio. Fuck this shit.

LOVE (and desperately miss): Byron's Hot Dogs, Cubs baseball, Chicago Comics/Quimby's, Belmont Burlesque, Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind, The Reader, Heaven on Seven (original Wabash location), meeting creeps on the El, shopping in Lakeview, and seeing shows at the Fireside Bowl (RIP), friendly folks everywhere, Pitchfork Music Festival.

HATE: Awful traffic when the Dan Ryan is under construction, aggressive hobos.

I hope I'm not working in this Ohioan hellhole over the summer.

What reason do you have for hating the Cubs then? They lose every time.
>> Anonymous
>>12171
BECAUSE THEY'RE ALWAYS ON ESPN. THEY GET THE MOST AIRTIME OUT OF ANY TEAM NOT NAMED THE YANKEES.

It's not like we get the Clippers or Vanderbilt shoved down our throat. Why do the Cubs get special treatment for being huge losers?
>> Anonymous

Maybe they're the underdog that the media subconsciously want to win and so they prop him up, also subconsciously, until he actually does win. He's also from Chicago.
