I'm going to visit Paris in about a week. Any tips, suggestions? I speak enough French to get by but I'm certainly not fluent. I have already heard:

- not to wear low-cut shirts unless you want to get harassed (I am female)
- not to ever ask for ice ever
- not to speak loudly in public
- pay for restrooms
- tip is included in restaurant bills

You will get harassed even if you don't wear low cut tops. The French are amorous people.

Also rude, but that just gives you an excuse to be rude, too.

This is relevant to my interests as well anon!

Honestly, as long as you try and make some effort to speak French and be helpful and polite (even if the French are being the opposite) you'll be fine. If people give you shit for being American, ignore them and shrug it off. Just don't go around be obnoxious or flaunting the fact that you're American.

It helps if you're hot too.

I wonder if ice has some sort of connotations in French.

no, they just serve drinks without ice (room temperature), whereas in the states it's almost impossible to get drinks iceless.

fuck that. I'm going over there and I'm asking for ice.

"i'm tired of this motherfucking warm drink, in my motherfucking france!"

Hooting and hollering at girls (and guys) in hot clothes passing by is more or less considered innocent flirting in much of Europe. Well okay, not entirely innocent, but you get my drift.

If you get "harassed", take it as a compliment.

I request this too. When I was in France I asked for ice.

I've been living in Italy for a couple years and men (to some extent women also) making comments as you pass or whistling or whatever if they find you attractive is pretty much normal over here. I don't think it's anything rude or crude it's just how they roll. If you just smile and walk on they will do the same, it's all just good fun. I'm guessing Paris is pretty similar.

What the fuck is wrong with ice?

People that are hot enough get whistled at and catcalled at just about any big city, no matter the country or continent. It was pretty much the same in American cities like Chicago and New York and in Paris for me.

I agree.
If your hot and the show intrest, they will not try to put their penis in you. They are just saying that your hot.
Take it as a compliment. And stop being so stuck up about "Oh noes I am being harassed!"
No your not! They are saying what they want.
Now if they actually touch you, just hit their face and/or scream rape.
Whisteling and howling = ok
Fucking touching = fuck you, no!
Fucking italians thinking they are fucking somebody. Fucking hate em all.
