So me and the wife are going to Egypt in October. Going with a tour, and seeing the tourist spots. Pyramids of course. We're mid-twenties.

Other then not drinking the water, any advice to keep us from disappearing?

Middle-eastern countries are extremely safe. Don't buy into that western-media terrorism shit, the odds are fucking slim to none.

The population isn't going to dissappear you, the only problem your going to MAYBE have is with the police/ government. They are corrupt as shit, but they don't generally mess with foriegners, and may even turn a blind eye to some shit they expect from you anyways.

Don't do anything overtly stupid and you will be fine. Your safer in Eygpt then you are in just about any American city. Just don't advertise the fact your a retarded forigener with more money then you deserve, because you'll excrete that vibe if you want to or not unless you keep it in mind.

if you're going with a tour nothing is gonna happen to you. nothing bad, and nothing good either ^^
If you take a taxi discuss the price before, don't go with meter they'll drive you all around the city.

Egypt isn't a middle-eastern country, it's north-east Africa.

The Suez Canal separates Africa from the Arab/Middle Eastern/Emirates block.

It's still full of Muslims. My boss moved to America to get away from there, as he's a Christian Egyptian. He's told us before that it's a bad idea to wear crosses and other Christian iconography in public.

Also, dress modestly. Make sure the wife wears long, loose fitting pants. Shorts are a no-no. Skirts are a very, very bad idea.

>He's told us before that it's a bad idea to wear crosses and other Christian iconography in public.
I think he was just being a self-important douchebag and he exaggerated. There may be some hostility towards foreign Christians, but not towards local Christians, unless he was born to a Muslim family and then converted; speaking in general of course.

>long, loose fitting pants. Shorts are a no-no. Skirts are a very, very bad idea.
Not only because of the social environment, but also the heat, unless she wants to turn into a lobster.

No, Egypt is a Middle Eastern country. Most of North Africa is more often than not considered Middle East.

Geographically it's not Middle-Eastern. It's considered Arab/Muslim.

The term Middle-Eastern is just geographic terminology, it doesn't denote religion or racial characteristics.

Yeah, dont bring your wife anywhere near Cairo. I haven't heard anything about the rest of egypt but apparently young arabs in cairo are sex-starved rapists. Like saudis, but worse.

>There may be some hostility towards foreign Christians, but not towards local Christians
Blatant lie.

I've been to Cairo/Alexandria with my family five or so years ago - we didn't get any shit from locals.

Though I should add, the food sucks they add this weird smelling spice to everything, and going to mcdonalds or something like that is an even worse idea.

You should buy and liberally apply a strong de-jewing agent to make sure any traces of jew are removed. Otherwise, trained Al Qaida pig-dogs might nab you for use in prisoner exchanges.
Also, you will need several bottles of a 2:1 distilled water-holy water solution. It's strong enough to turn away any mummies that might come after you, but cheap enough to drink in lieu of clean water.
Finally, make sure you practice walking like an Egyptian and keep a traditional headdress in your bag. It might save your life if you ever run into a pharaoh chariot gang and they decide to test you.

It's a dictatorship, go figure.
Don't talk about police or politics, the government has eyes and ears everywhere. Even though you're a foreigner and generally not messed with, tread lightly.
Egyptians have developed this natural sense to BACK THE FUCK UP whenever you mention something like "Hey, that Mubarak is the worst president ever, amirite?".
That is, unless they're informants which means your name is noted, your phone is tapped and you will be screwed.

i just lived there for a year alone at 20, shit is safe as houses. with a tour group you can expect to see overrated monuments among troves of other people like you and NO real egyptian culture or people. go to europe or something, your missing the entire reason westerners travel to these places.

Tourists do actually get kidnapped, but rarely.

The goverment is extreamely eager to keep the tourists safe, truly its incredibly hard to stop every single kidnapping but it it used to be much worse. As for the dresscodes etc, if you are not planning to enter a Mosqe you may dress however you like,. And also I see no reason at all why you should speak about politics while there, I cannot see the context at all:

"Wow thats a nice pyramid, lets climb it and talk about your horrible president"

hey guise, i changed my mind about going to dubai for new years with my girlfriend, shit's just too much money, so i thought of maybe going to egypt and just sitting on my ass so i wont get kidnapped.
can anybody recommend a good resort/hotel, predominantly distant from any sharm al sheikh or hurghada, with no family or animation services, no russians, just your average more or less secluded place?

or am i asking for too much?
