Yeah yeah, another Japan thread. I'm going to spend a few days in Tokyo with a friend, go work on a farm in Nagano for a week, spend a week playing around in Kansai, and then stay on a farm in Nagoya for a week. Due to horrible planning on my part, the week I'm not on a farm will be during the O-bon festival. I had a friend from Kansai who said he was going to spend time with me during those days, but he's kind of being a douche right now. I'm afraid I'm going to be stranded in the city with all the trains and hotels sold out, everything closed, and unable to speak good Japanese (much less Kansai-ben). What should I do during those days? What should I expect? Should I swallow my pride and ignore the fact that my friend stood me up the last time we were supposed to meet in the USA and trust him to take me around?Picture is of the Meguro Parasitology Museum in Tokyo, which for some reason doesn't show up in most travel brochures.
