>>82793 Well £450 isn't a bad amount. Gumtree.com is the Craigslist of the UK, you'll find lots of house and flat shares in the region of £100/week. You could probably get a small room, probably a single bed but pretty central for that. Move a bit further out into Zone 2 and it'll start to open up more larger double bedrooms. Note that an unlimited monthly Oyster (subway/bus) pass is £93 for Zones 1 & 2 and £109.10 for Zones 1-3.
I'd probably recommend North and North East London for you. Tufnell Park and Highgate are both nice areas on the Northern Line, pretty safe, lots of trees and parks nearby, easy access to Camden and the center of town.
Hackney is ok, cheap but not great for the tube, so you'd have to use buses. I wouldn't bother with Finsbury Park just because the tube station is a crime magnet. Islington can be very nice, but usually comes at a price.
West London is expensive and I doubt you'll be going out there much. East London is very expensive in the hipster area of Shoreditch. Bethnal Green and Mile End are pretty good. South London can be very nice for the money, but isn't really worth it IMO if you spend most of your time in North London. But Fulham, Putney and Wimbledon are all nice areas.
My advice is take a look at Gumtree and see what's available. Sometimes there are central bargains, so keep a look out.
Feel free to post here to ask about areas you've found a place in.
