Frankfurt sucks. Had a 5hr stopover there in January, it's insanely spread out and stores and shit are evenly distributed through the whole thing so you have to walk a mile to do anything.

I love McCarren in Vegas. I'm from Vegas but now living in Phoenix so whenever I fly back it makes me smile hearing the slot machines in the terminal.

i like that, it helps to kill the time on layovers.

Munich intl airport was good to me. I was 14, and I arrived much later than expected, the bus i needed has stopped running and I was wary of using the subway so i basically had to camp out there until morning. it was clean, safe, and the staff were very friendly.

CDG is supposedly a nightmare, but last year i travelled through it, changing terminals, and i didnt have any problems. then again, im pretty independent now, i never have to ask for directions.

I once had a 6 hour stay in Doha though. That was pretty bad. hot, sweaty, awful food in a dirty cafe, nothing to do, couldnt even leave the terminal for fear of evaporating (plonk in the middle of the desert), strange burka women everywhere wearing scary bird masks. weird atmosphere.
>> Anonymous
>>5404

THIS. BIG TIME.

i like smaller airports. i've been flying from zurich a few times, it's tiny but clean and friendly. unlike that heathrow shithole.
>> Anonymous
cmon, heathrow isnt that bad. apart from all the new security scare bullshit they've been pulling for the past couple of years. but 'normally' its ok.

i cant fucking stand stanstead. for some reason i find it reallllly depressing.

don't know about you, but my experience is that it's crowded as hell and smells like shit. you won't find your gate and if you know where it is you have to walk like forever to get there. and, if i travel i don't want to buy bling bling or cars in the fucking terminal. just maybe a reasonably priced coffee.
>> Anonymous
>>5443

nah, i can deals with crowds. im good at navigating, i never get lost so i always find my gate easily. and you find ridiculous shopping in lots of places. i was coming back from berlin schoenefeld a couple of weeks ago and the whole place is bombarded with barclaycard promotion thingys and people every 5 feet asking if i'd like to sign up for one. granted, though, the only places where you could sit down and enjoy a coffee are always packed.

i guess i have a soft spot for it as its my 'home' airport.

Local: MacArthur (Islip/New York)
Favorites: Logan (Boston) and Sky Harbor (Phoenix)

MacArthur is tiny. It's like the Playskool "My First International Airport." Logan is fucking awesome, and if you don't pull up quick enough, you taxi straight into the harbor. Logan's always home, and MacArthur's college, but Sky Harbor has the coolest terminals.

My fav is both of Tokio's Int. airports they are clean well organised and have plenty of food and stores to spend time in. Detroit's International Flight terminal for NWA and Co. is nice to.

Really Crappy Ones:
Charles De Gaul: WHo the fuck thought it would be a good idea to have to go through unmarked doors to get from terminal to terminal as well as having to exit all the way into the general area to be able to walk between terminals.
Houston: I spent four 1/2 getting of a european flight when they dumped 5-6 jumbo jets worth of people into a line for two security checks.
JFK: I can't even figure out where to start...maybe having to find an unmarked bus to take me between terminals.

Native Chicagoan here. Fuck O'Hare. Seriously. Every time I travel, I dread going through O'Hare. Midway doesn't even count as an airport in my book.

Going through O'Hare on a weekday is like anal rape. Going through O'Hare on a weekend or worse, a holiday, is like being raped at full force in vagina, mouth, and ass.

The TSA there is the most incompetent that I have ever seen anywhere in all of my travels. I'm inclined to believe that they hire retards as part of some tax break working program or something.

The only good part about flying through O'Hare is that any other airport you go to seems nice by comparison.

-It's easy to find your way, you get on the fucking train and go

Living in Sacramento, i'd like to say our airport is actually pretty great. Big enough, very little traffic, actually pretty interesting.

Lol, Santa Barbara is so fucking small it still amazes me. There were 2 desks, one receptionist, and one janitor when my flight came in. AT 6 o clock at night. The entire traffic was a private jet that would come in every 45 minutes.

Goddamn right! My flights from Norway all get rerouted through O'Hare so I can get to Minneapolis. It is the worst fucking thing. I have to get from terminal 1 to terminal 5, the last time I was through there, I had to make it from those terminals in 15 minutes. It fucking sucked! TSA is awful!

Just going through it stresses me out so much, and I don't stress when it comes to flying. Unless I'm at O'Hare. God damn I hate O'Hare.

Seconding O'Hare as one of the worst, I don't think I've ever been there and not been delayed or otherwise inconvenienced.
Charles De Gualle is hell.
Also, JFK is one of the worst places I have ever flown into. Dear sweet Jesus. At least O'hare is nice to look at. Avoid flying through this place at all costs.

Basically, any of the other 8 airports I've been to have been leaps and bounds better than O'Hare. Perhaps it's because my only experience with it is with international transfers (which means TERMINAL 1 TO TERMINAL 5 arrrgh!) and they usually get delayed or something, making my relatively comfortable 2 hour time frame to get through customs, security, and to my gate into a super stressful 15 minutes - 1 hour.

That 15 minutes was the worst travel experience of my life.

3. Suvarnabhumi, Thailand. Looks great and is much better than the old one. I like the layout here most, shops and cafe's look real quality.

I love Seatac. granted, i never eat anything other than burger king when i am there (or coffee, but as i live in Seattle that is an unspoken assumption). the security is better (IE faster) that what i have experienced elsewhere, and the airport is small enought that it isn't too confusing, it takes maybe 15 miinutes to go end to end.

however, my favorite airport thus far is Pullman-Moscow municipal airport. the single terminal is a whopping 100x100 feet, there are like, 12 employees, and you walk to where the plane is parked on the tarmac. pretty relaxed place for an airport, but i guess that is easier when you don't process more than 40 passengers at a time.

The Duty-free mall in the Heathrow international terminal is pretty cool, but i am pretty much done with the insanity of its fourth terminal for the foreseeable future, i would rather go through Manchester or Copenhagen (then to Leeds-Bradford).

The airport I go through most often is Narita, so everything sort of gets compared to it. Assuming Narita is a 0 (neither amazing, nor terrible, just normal).

Incheon wasn't bad for layovers. Good eateries, good shopping, comfortable seats.

Noi Bai in Hanoi was pretty ass, especially if you have a late night flight. EVERYTHING is airside, and everything airside closes early, even restaurants. If I had wanted to buy audio equipment or dodgy souvenirs, hoho.

I've been to the airport in Beijing, but I don't really remember anything about it. The line for immigration on arrival was long; leaving, the security check line was long, but I think it was pretty much GOGOGO after that.
>> Anonymous
I have two 4 hour layovers in Newark in June (well... probably more like a 7 hour and a 4 hour, considering the evening flight from Newark to YYZ is ALWAYS delayed). What do /trv/lers think of Newark for layovers (especially after a 14 hour flight)? Yay? Nay? Typical?

i live in saint louis, and if you've had the definite pleasure of never having to travel through it, consider yourself lucky: it makes o'hare and JFK look like utopia

it used to be a pretty sizable hub before TWA got its shit ruined, but since american bought them out and pulled a lot of their service to other cities it's turned into a gigantic shithole

STL is probably the worst airport in the country; it always looks shit-poor, dirty, and there's always half-assed maintenance going on; oh and did i mention they finished building a whole new runway to the tune of a couple hundred million clams and they hardly ever use it because we aren't a hub anymore?

as for my favorite airports: honolulu was pretty sweet with the open-air terminals and general cleanliness and friendliness (even the TSA drones looked and acted happy and amiable, i guess i would too if i had that sort of gig in veritable paradise); munich, when i visited, was almost brand-new, very clean and efficient the way only germans can do it

shitty airports include o'hare (like STL-level shit on a larger scale), charles de gaulle (i think the terminal i landed in was the dirtiest place i've ever seen, not to mention confusing as fuck), midway, and the domestic terminal of JFK

pic related, it's lambert STL "international"

BAH, stupid actually. No toilets in sight because they were turned into shops and cafes, the flooring after immigration was at first dangerous to walk on because it was slippery, and the revolving doors were actually a hindrance to travelers.
