American college student, where should I study abroad/which language should I learn?
Right now I'm thinking about going to either Russia, Japan, or Scotland/England.
Russia or Japan would mean I would have to learn the language.
Russia is awesome but cold and Russians are scary, Japan is all quirky and that good stuff, but I may get sick of being around just Japanese people.
Scotland and England is nice, just not too different.
So, /trv/, what do you think? Where should I go?

I was actually considering a Scandinavian country as well.

What is the main goal(s) of your time spent abroad?

study Russian, that way when the Chinese win you can move to Russia and be a 2nd class immigrant instead of a 3rd class since you'll speak the langauge.

Shit, I dunno.

Might want to figure that out first. Only then, armed with this information will fellow /trv/lrs be able to lubricate themselves and spew forth a plethora of insemination distilled from the very essence of Gaia herself.

Ever hear of nukes? China can't "win", whatever you were implying.

OP: Russia if you're in the field of science, Japan for math. Both countries will require you to learn their languages. Both are difficult compared to most Latin based languages. Not sure which is harder.

If you're white, you'll almost certainly be better accepted in Russia and it will be less of a culture shock. The Japanese, as everyone probably knows by now, are very xenophobic towards all other races, white, black, Chinese or Indian. Even if not openly so, you'll probably be able to notice.

Russia wins hands down in the hot chick department, though in Japan you're competing with pansy little 5'8 men with small wangs so it might be easier to get chicks there (I'm not sure what Japanese chicks think of westerners).

Rusfag here, go to Russia, definitely. Russia is actually not cold all year round (lol) in summer its pretty hot (in Moscow at least)

Yea and of course Russia has the hottest girls out of the countries you mentioned

PROTIP: if youre going to talk foreign politics with Russians, best be more on the Obama side than the McCain side..

And a lot of Russians will know english OK, although youll probably still need to learn Russian

He's implying that aside from Americans, the Japanese and the British the Chinese own the biggest part of our national debt, which means China is gonna take over

Unless you literally rifle through a catalog to find some crazy-small college (which would be murder contacting and ironing out an agreement, I imagine), you will not be around "only Japanese people" while studying abroad. Check out whatever study abroad programs your school has connections with/can recommend you pursue on your own.

I personally went to Kansai Gaidai which is located between Osaka and Kyoto, and had a blast. Up to you though. Also, all of Japan is not one bit cosplay/akihabara

Hah, in Kansai Gaidai you have to make an effort to actually meet some Japanese people. The start of the spring term was ridiculous as the campus was practically deserted except for the exchange students.

But yeah, great place. Going to visit the place next year to say hi to some people and walk the streets again.

When did you go btw? Spring 2008 here.

Fall 05. I signed on for a year, but got cold feet and moronically skipped out on the spring term. I love how they make you decide a month into the fucker.

Now I live in Wakayama, which is maybe 2 and a half hours away, give or take a bit with train layovers. I've gone back to KG once or two, but only ran into Professor Scott, and he still scares the shit outta me.

Any plans of going back there?

Yeah next spring like I said, thought I'd eat at the campus or one of the nearby restaurants once, say hi to some friends (and teachers if they're around) and maybe bring a little something for the seminar house okaasan. Walk to Yamadaikekooen and some other places I used to go as a student. Go on a run with the running club if they're active. Something like that. Probably spend just a day there and then go have fun in Kyoto/Osaka/Kobe/whatever.

England sucks, at least Scotland has hills, whisky and nice people. It's kinda like Norway without the Norwegians.

This is a no brainer!

If you think peak oil is real, better move to Russia because they have tons of that shit. Also nukes. I think that if there's any confrontation between the west and the east, Russia and China will be the winning team.

HINT: Russians are even more scared of China than Americans are. They're just better at hiding it.

No one is afraid of the Chinese, not Russians not Americans. If they ever tried to pull any shit they would cease to exist within 24 hours.

In a confrontation between Russia and China, I would think for a long time before decidedly declaring a winner. Nice attempt anyway, troll.

Does China even have enough nukes to hit all of russia?

Russia has enough to destroy the planet several times over.

Then you just don't know anything about their military.
