hey /trv/,

where is a nice, cheap place near NYC that a few college kids can go to/stay in for cheap for a week or so? I'm thinking about either Boston or Philly, since they're so accessible, but im open to ideas

Connecticut man. Better even more so that it's between both NYC and Boston. If you check the short term rentals on CL, you can find rooms you can rent for $25/day with all the bills included. Go on the MTA site and check the New Haven line and even Shoreline East for all the train stations that will get you to NYC. Union Station in New Haven will get you to Boston by bus as well.

There's hostels which I hear are pretty cheap in NYC.

Boston's a great city, but not exactly a cheap one (though you could probably find something decently cheap). Still, there's a lot to do in and around the city. Lots of museums, parks, historical places, etc. Good mass transit, too (though remember, the T isn't like the NY Subway, it's not 24/7. The last trains are around 12:30).

A good thing about Boston is that it's actually quite small in terms of land area. You can walk most of the parts you'd actually want to visit without too much trouble. Don't think about driving in the city, though. Aside from being crowded, the streets are basically just slightly widened, somewhat paved 17th century cow & horse paths.

how about live music, art, sightseeing, and general culture?

If you're talking about CT still, there's Toad's Place in New Haven. Also, New Haven has awesome older architecture and it's great to just walk around downtown.

Also, if you're used to logical street and address numbering, Boston will confuse the everliving fuck out of you. And parking's just as expensive as NYC.
