Hey /trv/
I'm thinking of moving to either North Carolina or Georgia.
Any of you living in either state, could you please tell me the good things and "bad" things about them? Like how's the housing and job situation ever there. Also, how's the population like over there? Etc.

I live in Taylorsville, Georgia. The people here a fairly nice. It's a rural area and everybody knows everybody pretty much. You should stay off other people's property though. My aunt actually walked across a field to yell at me for shooting a rabbit on her side of the fence. She was afraid for her cats lol.

I'm still in high school and the job market is terrible for me. Not sure how it would work out for people already out of college though.

As for entertainment, I drive to Cartersville ( if you know where that is) to play pool and go to the movies. Sometimes a 45 minute commute to Dallas if I want to play on the nice pool tables. Other than that theres not too much to do.

May I ask why you're thinking of moving to Georgia or North Carolina?

I feel that the life I've lived until now isn't really my own, so I need to do my own thing. That may not be where I am right now.
Im most likely going to end up moving to GA though, around the Atlanta area. Actually 18 mins away, in Decatur, since the school I want to go to is there.

I live in Raleigh, NC. It's a good if you like the college area. The downtown area is growing (construction/housing) and some nice pubs. Everything "cool" is pretty much located within a 5 mile radius.

If you're a Carolina Hurricanes fan (hockey), you're in luck.. the RBC center is right down the road.

That's cool I feel the same way. I can't tell you much about city life. I've only been to Atlanta a few times.

I am torn between moving to Alaska to be in the middle of nowhere or becoming an overseas English teacher like /trv/ has been flooded with these days. They're very different life styles, but I want to enjoy the best of both.

Anyway good luck to you.

i lived in charlotte, nc for many, many years. it has pretty much doubled in size and is now kind of a wannabe-atlanta. lots of yuppies. cost of living is still cheaper than atlanta; it is a relatively 'new' city so there are lots and lots of apartment complexes. overall, it's ok. night life is somewhat below average.

i've been to atlanta many many times and i like it a lot. traffic is the biggest problem. also it's relatively expensive for a southern city. night life is great though.

savannah is really pretty. as for the rest of georgia, i'd stay away unless you really love that small-town feel. athens is a fun college town though.

I live in NC...Raleigh for three years now. I wouldn't recommend living in the piedmont area. It's absolutely fucking hot in the summer. Expect an entire week of 100 degrees + the humidity. Humidity adds to the problem, which makes it more like 110 degrees and not being able to breathe. Also, there is barely any snow for the piedmont area, so if you want a white Christmas go farther to the west.

Anyways, if you want to live in Raleigh live in downtown. It's alot more fun than a suburb...there aren't alot of people downtown either, but there are in the college area. Housing is pretty cheap, but you can find cheaper homes in Durham, but that is if you want to get shot and robbed at a gas station.

For the beach areas, they are nice though. You got the outer banks/crystal coast, nags head ect. Expect to not be able to breathe in the summer.

I gotta say that alot of North Carolinians are complete assholes. Especially the older woman, they sound so disgusted. For the youth, they try to dress like their in California(where I previously lived before moving to this shithole.) Generally, people are alright, but don't expect them to be nice to you.

There are quite a few meth labs here, one was shut down close to where I live. You know your seeing a meth lab if your in the deep country area and a beat up trailer with lots of buckets and other things outside. But that isn't always the case.

Well if you have any questions just go for it.

North Carolina fag here.

I've been here for over 7 years, and have lived in Goldsboro and Greensboro. Compared to every other place I've lived, there has only been one worse place that I can think of. And thats fucking Idaho.

Unless you are around some of our high pinnacle universities, most of the people you meet are either ignorant, racist, or a combination thereof. There is a reason we are near the bottom of the rung on high school level education in the country.

How all these top tier universities such as UNC and Duke ended up here, I have no fucking idea. But if you value yourself as a decent human being, stay awayyyyy. As soon as I finish my undergraduate degree (May 2010), I'm booking it back to the west coast.

atlantafag here.

decatur is awesome - i'm moving there in august because it has everything. bars, great restaurants of all kinds, communal areas, shaded streets, walking trails, really close to little 5 points and midtown, etc,

as far as video games i know SCAD has a great program but i don't know about the atlanta branch. Georgia Tech has some pretty good stuff going on as well. These are both in Midtown which is a great place as well.

But this is getting a better place to work in the game industry. We have a some good, stable companies so far. I know of some places that are constantly hiring. And it's only getting better. We have a large community meetup of people ranging from students to high level professionals, programmers, audio, designers, etc.

>don't go to fayetteville, nc. you will be shot.

Yes, but there only a 50% chance it will be by the locals. The other half would be a suicide attempt once you realize what kind of a shit-hole place you've moved into.

Actually, I take that back. Fayetteville is a great place to live if you're an ugly chick, considering the gender-ratio of singles (it was about 14 men to 1 woman about a decade back). You could be a 300 pound acne-riddled mildly retarded basketcase, and you still get two or three boyfriends and a half-dozen fuckbuddies on the side.
