Hey. What do you think of Portugal.. travelwise? How are the people in there, how's the food, the culture, the nature? I would especially like to know and read some experiences from the city Guarda. Are there any locals in here or has someone visited it?

Thanks in advance.

This is probably a little late to post but...

The people are, most times, pretty nice and will help you if needed. The country is peaceful, but avoid wandering around at night in places were there aren't many people if you're in a big city like Lisbon or Porto. Just use your common sense.

Food wise, it's usually pretty good. And some of the times cheaper means better, especially up north.

About the culture... well, if you like history there are lots of castles and palaces to visit. I'd recommend Guimarães, for instance, although Guarda can be quite nice as well.

Nature wise, the north is much prettier than the south, so Guarda is again a good bet.

All in all, a good, inexpensive, place to visit.

Right of Return does exist for Portuguese citizens to Spain. Not sure why someone would want two EU passports, but hey...

ask anything you need to know...

the country is great. safe, peaceful, not too expensive, and the people are very friendly. it has a lot of history, so its nice if you are into that, but i know this might not be as interest as another spots in europe

still i would tell you come to portugal., you will enjoy it ;)

It's interesting to me. I like places that are chill and cheap to live. What's a one bedroom apartment go for in your area?

Depends from where you're from, but I'm guessing it'll be probably cheap for you.

> What's a one bedroom apartment go for in your area?
Again, this depends. Students can rent an apartment starting at a minimum of 200€ a month, for instance.(better do the conversion yourself :)
If you're interested in buying one, prices will vary quite a bit if you compare those in the city's center from the ones outside it. I'd say that, for a one bedroom apartment in Coimbra, you'd pay around 80.000€. This will be probably cheaper at Guarda.
At Coimbra you have the advantage to get to see lots of students due to the number of universities it has. This means lots of chicks (or boys) and a joyful atmosphere :)
It's my personal favorite city, even though I live in Lisbon.

Damn, that's a bargain compared to the prices I've been seeing in other parts of the EU. I wonder if Portugal has free, high tech universities with classes in English like Scandinavia.

There are a few good public universities (but they arent free, just cheaper). The private ones tend to be better, but I never heard of any universities with classes in english.

Secret? Lisbon and the Algarve are swarming with tourists.

Portugal does have good universities, but classes aren't in english...
Maybe after a few more years...

Actually, Portugal worries more about building football stadiums than investing in research or good education... but the technical universities in Lisbon, for instance, have very good standards.

Portugal = Cheaper Spain with the better language.

Good history and arts. Good food.

Just because you are too dumb to learn spanish, doesn't make portuguese a better language.
Either you are a hairy portuguese yourself or a stupid brazilian.

They say Portuguese sounds better, is all, and it seems to (on the surface). Most people I've spoken with in comparing them (when they know both) have preferred Portuguese.

Portuguese women are amongst the ugliest in the world. I was there 6 months and I never saw any drop dead gorgeous woman. Fugly. Even in a top nightclub in Lisbon by the river they were all fucking ugly.
