Sup /trv/,

What is New Zealand like? From what I've read, it seems like paradise. The idea of moving there recently crossed my mind, but I know very little about actual quality of life, job market, y'know, that sort of thing. Is it a terribly expensive place to live? Would a teacher be able to get a job fairly easily? What about transportation?

So TL;DR, tell me about your country, Sheepfuckers.

There are mountains with lots of rocks in them and big plains with rocks in them and sheep with no rocks in them.

Oh wow.

For one, there's sheep to fuck as far as the eye can see. Also, enjoy your 20 hour flight.

I met a kiwi and he lived in my building for a few months. Actually, there was an Australian, too. I'm not sure which is from where. They were both cool guys.

Best country on earth. Very free, great surrondings, very high QoL, there are jobs available everywhere.. the unemployment rate is at record levels right now. The housing market has just finished it's massive boom.. so while it is quite expensive to rent/buy at the moment it should come down. Transportation.. depends where you go.. Auckland's public transport is shoddy.. Wellington/Hamilton and Christchurch's are very good. Otherwise, the car is popular.
Watch this also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2lviag8ANk sorta old but not much has changed since then. NZ is fucking awesome, cheers. Hit me back with any Q's.

I moved from NY to wellington, I must say I fucking hate it here!
Kiwis seem to love being raped time and time again, taxes are insanely high thanks to the Greenpeace fags and a she-male prime minister that's willing to slide it up everyone's cornhole. To add fuel to the fire NZ is one of the few countries in the world where you can live pretty much for free if your black (e.g SUPA MAURIO Bros!! LOL)

I don't know where you get this OZ>NZ thing because many "smart" kiwis aren't willing to be butraped nor deal with the bullshit that the NZ parliament has conjured up, and thus unsurprisingly the ones who still have money left behind are moving to OZ.

Yes it pretty as you can get scenery wise but most of the countryside is mostly for tourists anyway, since you will be struggling to live even on a 100k salary.
There is No such thing as paradise and NZ is anything but..

lol what?

NZ isn't really the place to be if you wanna become mega rich or anything, (move back to NY) but if you wanna relax and just basically enjoy yourself like most ppl do here (including me) then you will enjoy it.

Not surprising that you'd find NZ/Aus pretty left-wing compared to the USA. Most of Europe is the same.

Maybe live in Israel if that bothers you so much.

In fact most Americans are more left wing than their two political parties.

Hey, don't feel left out, USA. You're not the only one that far right. I think Afghanistan and Saudi-Arabia almost are as right-wing as you.

Almost.

I was in NZ for about two months last summer, but had to return to Canada for reasons beyond my control. I loved it so much that I plan on moving back there as soon as I am done college and have a few thousand bucks behind me. I'm under the impression their film industry is taking off, so I hope to get involved in that down in Welly.

The people are great, the beer is cheap, the girls have hot accents, and an entirely new enviroment is always just a few hours drive away.

And Oportos is fucking delicious, although I understand it's actually an Australian franchise...

New Zealand - * * * * *

>the unemployment rate is at record levels right now.
lolwut? I think you mean the _employment_ rate is at record levels. OP, if you are a teacher, though, you will probably find a job easily, as teachers are in demand.

Everyone in New Zealand knows that they can get paid more in Australia and taxes are lower there. New Zealand has a mixed economy so expect high taxes compared to what you'd expect in the US.

Transportation - generally you get around by car here. Public transport is less common.

Quality of life is generally very good, but you might find that New Zealand is quite expensive and you won't have the same job opportunities. The housing boom is big right now so expect to pay a lot for a place to live. However, I've never left New Zealand so I can't compare in any detail to the living costs in other countries.

I have heard that New Zealand can be difficult to get in to, but if you're a teacher you might not have any problems. I'd say it's a great place to live. Move to somewhere like Wellington or Christchurch for the real Kiwi experience. For a teaching job there's plenty of small towns too, if you really want to get away from it all.

But remember that New Zealand is just a country, and it's not a good attitude to think of it as a paradise all the time. We do have some problems here like all countries.

Moved from the US to NZ 3 years ago. I'm 20 now. Here's my take:
>>quality of life
Less than that of the states: smaller housing, lower average pay, everything costs more because of shipping costs, most industries that you buy products from (except for food) are more than likely overseas, education is less, dropping out of high school earning a blue-collar job and gettin pissed off your unacceptable face are all part of the accepted standard (but of course there is an upper class here, just that there's a broader lower class). Internet is more expensive, limited, regulated, and slower than the states.
>>job market
Exported, littery. Due to the commonwealth work permit, all the intellectual/high training jobs are anywhere but new zealand because that's where the $ is at. We're not a rich country, and we've only got 4 million people. Also, see blue-collar trash comment above.
>> Would a teacher be able to get a job fairly easily?
NZ has a MAJOR teacher shortage, but you may require going to school for a year acquiring a teacher's certificate.
>> transportation?
Sucks. Due to shipping costs, gas (called petrol here colloquially) costs way more. In-city transpo is good, and the bus systems are nice, especially wellington's. The highways (lol...) arn't as large/well laid as the US, and the if you're going by air to the south island it's either christchurch or blenhem mate, and if it blenhem then I hope you dont mind small planes. As in 6 passengers max.

In short: Love $? Stay in the US. Want a more relaxed social environment, slightly more liberal? NZ's pretty chill-laxed, mate.
