So I'm planning on going to NYC in mid-july this summer, and I was wondering if /trv/ could tell me where to find some cheap places to stay are. I'm already paying about $200 to get there via greyhound, and I don't to spend more than $400-500 for the whole trip considering that I have to pay for books and such when college starts up again.

Yeah, sure.

For that amount of money you could rent a box off a homeless guy. MAYBE.

You can stay in Hostels if you're under 25... Just google NYC Hostels (there are tons) and some hostels even have user ratings/comments on their website (I'd go for these). They're usually around $30 a night.

NYC is a shithole. Everyone's a scumbag. If you disagree you're one of those scumbags.

>Everyone's a scumbag.
Just because you're from a small town where everybody knows each other... doesn't mean you have to cry when you enter a big city.

Any idea, how far in advance I should make a reservation?

also, can anyone tell me how much money I should take for food. I'm going to be there for about 3-4 days.

If you stick to McDonalds/BK/etc etc you shouldnt have to spend more than $25 for food. $400-$500? Do you plan on staying with someone you know? Depending on where youre staying ask people around whats nearby to visit. Stick to walking and subways to save money or bring your own bike!

As far advanced as you can. Go ahead and call up or ask through their email service when the earliest of times you can reserve a room.
