Hello /trv/

I'm planning a trip to Florida with my family (dad, mom, me 19 and little sis 7 yo) for late august.

I need some advice. We are looking into staying one week at one hotel with maybe a golf, tennis, pools, etc and just lazying around, then the second week moving more around with a rental car and visiting places.

- What websites do you recommend for finding an hotel?
- Which place would you stay a week long in? We thought of staying near Orlando, because it's known for amusement parcs.
- What is there worth seeing? Everglades Nat. Park i suppose?
- i read it's very hot in august. is it still bearable? Are there many mosquitos or anything like we should know about climate?
- etc.

Hi, Floridafag here.

-Not so sure about what website you should use, I use Hotels.com
-Definitely get a hotel in Orlando. All the theme parks worth going are in that general area(Universal Studios). Disney is in Kissimmee, which is a short drive from Orlando.
-Honestly, you're better off going to the parks. Not many things in Florida other than. If you do want to go to Everglades, there isn't a national park. And it'll be a 4-5 hour drive from Orlando to South Florida.
-It can get pretty hot, but it's bearable. Especially if you cool off at a pool or a theme park. Mosquitoes should only bother you if you do end up going to the Everglades.

tl;dr-Fuck the rest of Florida and just make it a trip to Orlando, enjoy your themeparks.

Another Floridafag here,
I suppose it's too late to talk you out of coming.

-I'd recommend staying at the Howard Johnson on International Drive in Orlando. Decent rooms, decent rates, walking distance to restaurants and very close to parks. I'm there once a year... nice hotel.
-If you enjoy beaches, there are lots to choose from. I'm in southwest Fla, so I'd recommend Sanibel and Seista Key. Not nearly as disgusting as St. Pete Beach and other city beaches.
-The rest of the state is cows, oranges, caladiums and palmettos, I agree with Floridafag #1... enjoy Orlando, then run.
-It is very hot in August, it's hotter in September. Depending where you are in the state depends on how bad it is. The further south you go, the worse the mosquitoes get.

Important note... see the yellow line in your image? Stay north of that line. Seriously.

Hey there, Floridafag #1 here. I am also a Miamifag.

South Beach is probably the only thing in that list worth going to Miami for. Orlando has all that, and better.

the fuck, a tripcode?

IDK, I have plenty of relatives from South America that visit Miami frequently, they tend to like to do other things than South Beach...

Although South Beach *IS* fun. I miss when Coconut Grove was the place to bar-hop. The Grove is trying to make themselves "family friendly" and discourage the New England frat boys from UM fagging up the place with their stupidity.

Florida fag here.

Florida is a shithole.

>then the second week moving more around with a rental car and visiting places.

Don't make the same mistake we did. Get a car for the first week too. Hotel gets boring soon, and you'll get nowhere without a car

I highly recommend against traveling more. Just stay in Orlando. Go to Disney, Universal and Sea World. Hit that water park... whatever it's fucking called.

Everything in Florida is far away from each other... and traffic and roads suck.
You'll spend most of your vacation stuck in traffic.
God help you if we get a named storm.

OK. Any particular reason?

Everything down is pretty much a fucking swamp area. Mosquitoes and all the bad shit you don't want.

visit tampa bay, better yet, visit st. petersburg.

orlando is a boring shit town, other than going to the parks.

the heat is bearable. it's the humidity that's a bitch.

South of that line...

Miami: see also: Cuba.
Everglades: Swamp.
Moore Haven/Clewiston/Ortona: It was shit poor when I lived there, Charley fucked it up so bad the national guard implemented a 8pm-8am curfew. It's not any better.
Naples: A town full of rich cocksuckers.
Key West: An island full of cocksuckers.

Stay in a Hampton Inn, they're always nice. As far as Orlando goes, do the Disney World thing. Also, you want to hit the beach, so Daytona beach is only about an hour away, so spend a day there. And if you're a science/history person, I'd definitely recommend Cape Canaveral.

Florida is good for two things; beaches and theme parks, don't bother with anything else.

oh, and I should note, none of the beaches are worth revolving a whole trip around. They are fun as a day trip at best.

i lived in florida for many moons. stay out of orlando for lameness and overpriced waste of money.

best thing to do in florida is probably spend 3-4 days going through the keys. 1 night in key largo, 1 in marathon, and then 1 or 2 in key west, stopping at all the cool shit along the way.

the everglades are okay, you can see some alligators.

st. augustine is fun and worth spending a couple days in

hotels.com or kayak to find places to stay.

mosquitos aren't that bad if you're near the coast.

weather is hot and muggy, but shit, people live there. you'll live.

I have to disagree. The Keys suck... avoid them.
It's a long fucking drive for nothing. There is no cool shit there.

Another Fl guy here

-websites? fuck if I know, try hotels.com
-Orlando is probably a good choice with the parks and all, but lots of tourist traffic (especially during the summer). Plus you're close enough to go to the beach and stuff if you want.
- Few good places...
Daytona, beach
St. Augustine, old forts
Cape Canaveral, space stuff
Everglades, nature gators etc. & now pythons
Keys, snorkeling & diving (key west packed with fags, others are pretty safe)
Bad...
Fort Myers, assholes & old people
West Palm, see above
Miami, assload of traffic & need to speak spanish to talk to anyone
Around Lake Okeechobee, nothing to see but a few gators and sugar cane
-Fuck yes it's hot in August, especially if you're not used to it. Below your yellow line I'm talking 100+ degrees with 98% humidity, & lots of mosquitos. Orlando area probably at least 90's but less humidity & less mosquitos.
>> Anonymous
If you decide to venture south past the yellow line, google a place called the "Venetian Pools".

If you're staying in Orlando and want a daytrip to the beach, Tampa area > Daytona. If you get bored of the beach in Tampa, at least there's other shit to do. And you won't have to worry about collegefratshitfags on vacation acting like assholes.

Go to International Drive in Orlando for food once or twice. It's easy to tell the shit restaurants from the good ones.

For hotels for a family of your size I'd recommend Homewood Suites. They've always taken care of me.

And finally, if I had to offer a tourist SOUTH Florida or NORTH Florida, I'd suggest south. =/ Might be full of assholes but at least there's shit to do. Go out for breakfast at a Cuban bakery and get the best sweet coffee you'll ever have. Look into a drive through Alligator Alley, too.

All this from a former Orlandofag. Jacksonvillefag now.
