I want to travel AROUND THE WORLD. Anonymous
Literally.

I'm thinking of making a circular trip around the world. I'm not doing it around the equator since there aren't too many countries I could visit across that way. I'm going across the Northern Hemisphere.

North America -> Europe -> Russia > North America

No planes. Train, boat, car, and foot only, if possible. There are a few things I want to make sure of before I make serious plans. The reason I can do this is because I work online, so theoretically I can stay "connected" and periodically work and check my accounts, etc. during my trip. With the exception of everything east of Moscow, what is the availability of the internets across Europe for a traveler? Do you guys commonly have open wifi? I'll be connecting securely through a VPN for work.

My other question is what countries do you suggest I travel through? I've already been to the UK, so I'm thinking of starting in Portugal or Spain.

Pic related.

i guess in most parts of western europe you'll get some decent wifi-access. no idea about anything east of of germany though. probably have to use some cybercafés or someting.

what are you going to sleep in? a tent? or are you tryin to get from one hostel to anoter or something? probably will be fun as hell on your way through russia.

Hotels, ideally. :P It's not really a "backpacking through Europe" kind of trip, but I want to take in as much of the local cultures throughout my journey and because it's such a long trip I don't want to spend a ton of money on expensive hotels.

No buses? Those are widely used in the Spanish speaking world.

Expensive. However, sounds good. If you want to get the fullest experience possible, you should start in London and take the Channel Tunnel to France and zigzag through the whole of Europe. I'd recommend going to St. Petersburg then turning back to Scandinavia, but I know getting in and out of Russia is a bitch so you may want to do everything there in one take.

How long would this trip be for and how much would it cost?

I'll take buses, too.

Well, I'm still in the pre-planning stages, so I really don't know all the specifics.

>How long would this trip be for
At least two months, maybe three. I probably won't stay more than a few days in most cities.

>and how much would it cost?
No idea, and I'm going to make a close estimate long before I try to do it. However, I will be working throughout the trip, so my income will offset the costs somewhat.
