Hey /trv/, any advice on safety in Western Russia?

I plan on visiting Moscow and Saint Petersburg. However, I've heard that there have been an escalating amount of Neo-Nazi violence targeted at minorities within the last decade. While I suspect the media of playing up on sensationalist fears, especially considering a couple of violent incidents in cities of a few million isn't uncommon in the United States, I'm still a bit concerned. Asian American here, if it means anything.

Stereotypical image of St. Basil's Cathedral relevant.

Hey it's that thing from the tetris game.

As long as you stick to crowded places during daytime, you'll be fine. Exploring these cities at night even in company may be dangerous.

St. Petersburg is far less safe than Moscow is. Watch out for street orphans, too. They're not near as violent as the fascist gangs, but they're far more common and will pickpocket you. Also, don't expect the police or passerby to help you, the best thing to do is avoid trouble in the first place.

Everything outside of Moscow is dangerous.
