Washington, D.C. - What Should I Check Out? Anonymous
There are a million things to do and see in the city, but I'll be limited to 4 days (not including my days traveling to and from). So what are the top things that I absolutely cannot miss while I'm in D.C.? Is it feasible to drive around in D.C. or should I plan on taking the metro the whole time? I will be going in August when the government is on vacation - will that have a strong bearing on the trip and what's open or closed to the public?

Please guide me, /trv/!

You should plan on taking the metro everywhere and doing lots of walking.
If you haven't been there before, it's well worth your time to visit all the major monuments, buildings, smithsonian museums, and other major places like the holocaust museum and Arlington cemetary. Four days is plenty of time to do all that, if it were me I'd set aside a full day just to visit the art museums.

Thanks! I've never been before, but always wanted to go. I'll definitely be packing some tennis shoes for walking. Are most of the monuments and buildings in the same general area or is it a good hike to get from one to the other?

Also, do you think it's worth it to go to the Zoo, Spy Museum, or Arboretum?
