Well, i was in Japan for two weeks about a couple of years ago, stayed in tokyo and travelled around abit, as for the english part, didn't find many japanese who could talk english, some waiters in resturants maybe, and young people ofcourse, and even if they knwo enlish they're not very good at it, atleast not the people we met ;) So try to learn some japanese phrases just so you know how to ask for directions and such... As for places to check out, different shrines and temples, i was in Odawara for one day, took a bath in some hot spring, that was cool, checked out two castles, Odawara castle was one of them, but it wasn't the riginal, only a rebuilt copy, and then i was in Matsumoto, that town still had the original Castle(Check Picture! i took, quite proud of it lol) If.. you visit Tokyo, make sure to go to Ginza, Shibuya and ofcourse Akihabara =) As for food... they have the best, Ramen, Udon, Sushi, Japanese bbq and so on!
have fun, trust me you'll have a sh*t load of fun there, it's completely different over there compared to what it's like over here in the west, like a different world if you ask me :D
