London Stansted Anonymous
Hello Travellers,

My completely unplanned wild weekend Europe round-trip (courtesy Ryanair) requires me to stay overnight at London Stansted airport. Two nights actually.

Question is, which part of the terminal is better for a sleepover, arrivals, or general area? Will I be sought after by Her Majesty's any and all special forces, if after arriving I just hit the sack on a bench in Arrivals, without showing up at any desk? Will be arriving one way from Ireland (DUB), so I don't think they even check those? What about the way back, when my arriving flight will be from the mainland?

Thanks for any advice from experienced STN sleepers. I know sleepinginairports.net, btw, but the questions above isn't answered very clearly there.

Feel free to hijack the thread for general airport sleeping purposes, too.

Stanstead is ok, its pretty hard to find sleeping space if you show up late, alot of people sleep there as its one of the main connecting airports for Ryanair and other airliners too. There is an airport hotel nearby but it costs money of course. All in all you should be able to find plenty of sleeping areas if you arrive early enough, otherwise be content with sleeping on the floor. Dublin airport suffers this fate also, but there are even less places to sleep in, i got lucky and found a nice long comfy couch to sleep on, but there were alot of people who were forced to sleep on the floor due to lack of space.

There isn't really an arrivals area to kip at in stanstead, they just shuffle you right out (after the endless identical hallways) into the general arrivals departure area. Theres lots of little 'pockets' to sleep in behind pillars, shops and currency exchange booths. Though i've never managed to sleep more than half an hour at that place. Avoid the chairs. My real advice to you. Bring a bottle of whiskey and drink 'till you doze off.

So you're going away for the weekend, and you have to spend two days at the airport...isn't that the weekend?

fail.
