Going to Friuli, Italy. Anyone been there before? Anonymous
I'm going to spend some time in Friuli, north eastern corner of Italy, this summer. I plan to start from there and move through Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and maybe Slovenia.

A friend of mine stayed there for a couple of weeks (spent some time at Aviano AFB) told me it's actually a nice place, it's got everything from mountains to sandy beaches, and the people couldn't be farther from the usual "greaseball" stereotype.

Did he make this stuff up or can anyone actually confirm?

it's true, that part of Italy was under Austrian control so it has remained relatively civilized.

in cities like Trieste or popular tourism sites there should be no problem.. but ehy, it's always Italy so you never know. Gestures ftw!

If you're going to go to Slovenia, you should just go south to Croatia. There's a lot of fucking awesome islands and one up north that's cool is called Krk. Check it out.

Also, the capital (Zagreb) is really cool, but on a sunday EVERYTHING is closed. City is a ghost town and it's really creepy.
