Kidzu
Kyoto isn't far from Osaka. You can get a normal train there for about a thousand yen. There's plenty to go and see there. Of course Kiyomizudera (temple) and Kinkakuji (a shrine)... If you go to the 11th or 12th floor of the station in Kyoto, also (there's a tonne of escalators making their way up there; just going that far is an experience in itself), there is the ramen "street" -- There is a specific ramen shop in the middle of all of them... I forget the name... it's the one with the biggest queue... They have some of the best ramen I've had forever
If you're interested in seeing the Roppongi of Osaka then go to Nishi-something-something-something-something (stupidly long name) and leave the station and walk around for a bit in the evening... I walked no more than 100m there and witnessed at least 4 or 5 girls going up to business men offering them "massages"... Interesting place...
I don't know much about Osaka itself, though, as I was only there for 3 days
I hope that gives you some inspiration anyway!
