A Finnfag with some travel experience inside and outside the country here.
Helsinki is okay but it's nothing special. For Helsinki nightlife, check out Kallio for a nice, laid back atmosphere with guaranteed friendly people. If you are into Helsinki though, a travellers guide or w/e will be better help than I am.
The best you'd get out of Finland is if you have either relatives or good friends here - they can show you what Finnish culture is all about, drinking, sauna, summer cottage by the lake and all that.
If you are into nature and all that, stay away from the big cities (or towns Finland's case...) and book the first flight to Rovaniemi and explore Lapland with its fjell, national parks and untouched nature. Some very good spots in southern Finland too, check out Helvetinjärvi.
Finnish people are generally kinda shy and may seem unfriendly, but under the influence we tend to loosen a bit :P. Don't be afraid to ask for directions though, most people of the younger generation can communicate in English.
Oh, and unless you are REALLY into exotic arctic stuff or something shitty like that, DON'T come in the winter. Best time is July and August. Be prepared for mosquitos if you are going to wander outside the city though...
