What's New Zealand like?

It seems like my perfect place. I'd love to visit the country at some point. And if it is as good as I imagine i'd probably end up moving there.

So destroy my fantasies guys. What are the pros and cons of New Zealand? Also, in before sheep.

Well in that case: There are far less people; everything is likely to be more expensive than you would find it for in the US of A; the climate of NZ is like that of England; they use New Zealand dollars.

Good Things: Not America, Sheep (if you know what I mean--------for food of course)
Bad Things: Shit's expensive, terrible accent

NZ has terrible ISPs too.

There are 12 sheep per person.
That's all you need to know.

New Zealand's National Anthem is "God Defend New Zealand" because no one else would want to.

above ppl ,you are all fags! don't listen to the usual 4chan BS do some research ya self and read up on it.

NZ is a beautiful country to live in it ( you've all seen lord of the rings... well it real scenery and its there) has all manor of activity's and great outdoor experiences closely to hand, climb a volcano ski swim and surf all in the same day if you want to... and has pretty much anything any other 1st country has to offer technologically on average.
and the climate is good with a 4 full sessions of difference, sometimes all in one day!).

there not many ppl the air is clean and pollution low, the standard of living is great.

without a doubt one the most amazing country's Ive visited in the world
do some reading.. and find out for ya self better yet go holiday there and form your own opinion.

As an Australian, I can safely say that I love New Zealand, except for their accent and abuse of the word 'bro".

oh hai,
i'm from nz

Since it's a small country (hell, the biggest 'city' is aukland with 310k people) you get the limits of that kind of low population, like a lack of high end jobs, or good urban culture. The kind of stuff you need a high population density for. The best you'll get is suburbia and a small, small downtown. And the internet connections there suck ass, compared to the rest of the 1st world since it's so remote & it's telco is monopolized.

Dont believe people that say you cant make good money in NZ, if you have the qualifications and exp in ya job you will earn good money, most people in NZ have such laid back/she'll be right lazy attitudes they put up with getting paid shit wages and shit jobs. But at the end of the day we dont have any natural resources that are worth anything and the population to pay as much as Australia etc. But you can make a good living here.

I live in Mount Maunganui, beautiful town to live in, I have traveled a lot, and NZ is till the most beautiful county all round to stay imo.

But I owuld rather eat my own shit than live in Auckland, its a terrible place.

If you can't get laid in the US, there's a simple solution. Move to the New York area and pick up Long Island girls. I swear, half of them are born bowlegged or something.

There seem to be more kiwis living in Australia than there are living in NZ, take that how you will.

University student in Dunedin, NZ here:

Pros: New Zealand is a beautiful country. Pretty clean, very green with a high living standard. It's a good place for almost anything - Education is well up to the standard, racism is minimal (Particularly in comparison with Australia or the US) and we are overall a very democratic and transparent country.

Neg: Due to our geographical isolation we get some stuff late - You won't get your newest Iphone SDK until a few months after release, for example. The internet is getting better and better (I'm on a 7.2mb ADSL connection atm).
Some other negative aspects? We are not very famous internationally (We are not all over the news, for example) but perhaps that's a good thing after all.

It's a good country. Lots of different cultures here so it's easy to adapt. I'm trying to think of negative things as not to make this too biased - But when it comes to enumerating bad things I can barely think of anything.

English, with a New Zealand accent. The accent is sorta similar to an Australian one from anyone else's perspective, but perhaps not from the perspective of Australians.

Instead of Feash and Chips they say Fush and Chups.

Instead of mate, they say bro.

North Island is pretty good. South Island is pretty good to a point, go too far south and it's crap. Avoid Dunedin unless you're going to university there.

American/Canadian/English: The weather is quite wet.

New Zealand: The witter is quit wit.

If I live long enough to retire, I'll be doing so in New Zealand. Not sure where though, maybe Christchurch, Wellington or Napier.

I've been over there a few times, isn't bad. Only really been around Auckland so I probably only experienced the bad bits of New Zealand.

Also, expect a lot of this..

Sheep are the big "problem" in KiwiLand.

Don't think there's massive rabid animals like in Australia.

But seriously. Australia is batshit insane.

I could jump in and roll around in any given bush here or put my hand down any hole here. The worst that could happen to me would be a bee sting, possible a weta bite but nothing that will kill me (i.e. no snakes or deadly spiders).

>>13199
the whole sheep thing is always way over exaggerated. The most sheep you will find would be in the Canterbury planes or Southland where sheep farming is big. If you come to my provisional area, The Waikato, you wont find any sheep just a lot of cows as dairy farming is key (we are dairy farmers ourselves).
Australians seem to have sheep sex on their minds all the time (its normally the first thing they say to me when i'm in aussie).

Auckland isn't really a bad city as ppl make it sound, but its grown into all of us below the Bombay hills to hate them. I do like Auckland but i prefer my city (Hamilton).

Basically everyone (who isn't Tongan, or Tongan claiming to be Maori) there is pretty friendly, and usually will help out a tourist. If your American, English or Irish they will give you a little shit about it but its all in good fun

auckland has 1 million people. It's christchurch & wellington that are around the 300-400k mark

also auckland is a dump. also ignore the people that say "expect bro bro bro bro" no one civilised says "bro". it's only natives and other pacific islanders that do.
