Hai, I was directed here from /r9k/.

What do you think of the Philippines as a holiday destination? I am going there for at least two weeks for work and then perhaps a 1 week holiday. I'll be in Manila for work and am thinking about going to Anilao or Puerto Galera to learn to dive and to then to move on to one other location.

Does you have any comments/suggestions/advice?

Is learning to dive here a good idea? Someone suggested it wasn't because it's "dodgy".

Would Anilao or Puerto Galera be a good place to learn to dive? Where else could I go to learn or otherwise?

Also: What can I do in Manila in the evenings so I don't get bored during the two week work-stay?

It's a great place to visit. I live there (here) as a student.
It seriously depends on what time you are going. SEA and the Philippines are rather shitty places to be during rainy season.

Need moar information.

Besides all that, you might dig Boracay MOAR (something to do when not diving, etc.) . But all this depends on when.

Evenings in Manila are fine. Greenhills, Makati, etc. If you are single, they are even better.

So are you an yahoo/Ebay fag/Cisco/call centerfag?

I'll probably be arriving there at the end of this month, which I understand to be the end of the wet season?

What is at Boracay? It looks like a big beach with a gazillion hotels.

I am an IT worker (so quite obviously single) for a company that has a call center there. Do the local girls dig Australians like they do in some other Asian countries?

Thanks for the tip on Greenhills, my Lonely Planet guide did not mention it.
