Hey /trv/ fags...

How much does a commonhold(condo) go for in London?
Or just a flat monthly?

Sometime nice....maybe historic or or glassy like picture above....
Not to crazy expensive...I know London is VERY expensive making Manhattan look like a dollar store.

If you want a flat in the area that photos taken, it'd be a real lottery. shoreditch is trendy as fuck, but you could go a little way down the road to bethnal green or mile end and get somewhere alot cheaper. expect small rooms, junkies and ketamine. lots and lots of ketamine.

Yeah the Liverpool Street/Spitalfields area is pretty expensive now.

There are huge variations in prices, you'll be talking £350,000+ for a nice, spacious 1 bedroom apartment or £400+ per week for something with character or modern like your photo in a good area.

You can easily find a really nice flat/house share with a big room and ensuite bathroom for £150-£200 per week.

Like Manhattan though, hip areas will cost you a lot, those price are just rough estimates. Check out rightmove.co.uk for real estate listings and gumtree.com for classifieds (like Craigslist).

Mile End has some nice streets (around Tredegar Square), you can get a nice 2/3 bedroom house for the same as much smaller a 2 bedroom apartment in Shoreditch or Islington

I think Camden would be suitable for your needs, but by no means cheap.

In general you want to avoid south London (particulary Lambeth, Southark ,Lewisham and Greenwich)

http://www.upmystreet.com is a good site to check property prices, crime rates and neighbourhood profiles.

Clerkenwell is probably your best bet
>> Fairly modern
A good mixture of old and new
>> pretty clean
Yes, Islington council are good
>> few junkies
Some beggers at the tube stations, but that's about the worst it
>> a fuck load to do
This is the beauty of it, at the weekend Clerkenwell is fairly quiet and chilled out, but all the hotspots like Camden, Kings Cross, Shoreditch, the West End are just minutes away by foot or public transport

London is a big place though, you really need to choose an area to live based upon where you'll be working and going out, otherwise it can easily take an hour to get around to cross zone 1 if you don't have a direct route

Well I I am looking for maybe a nice flat with large glass windows so a nice view of the city is a big plus,

The only thing you'll see out of your big windows is your neighbours bathroom window 10 feet away.

I hope your parents are Saudi oil barons. 'cos thats the only way you'll be able to afford anything above a hovel in London.

check out the london branch of gumtree.com - shit aint cheap i lived in fulham (reaonably nice suburb) last year and i was paying GBP 120 p/week for a room in a pretty run down shitty sharehouse. good times tho ;D

If you want that in London, you're looking at at least £300 a week in zone 2. Zone 1 would probably be 400 or more--London is ridiculously expensive, and full of really shitty flats. This is what makes it worse than New York, Tokyo, and other big cities around the world; they are expensive as fuck, but the quality differential isn't so extreme.

OK, for something like that you'll want to be living in the Docklands/Canary Wharf area.

There are also places like that along the river, like this one for rent via Foxtons in Vauxhall. You'll pay more if you want views of the London skyline.

I see...I don't need something THAT nice...but a widow like that is what I want..

I could afford £300 a week, but that would be nearly half of my month income assuming I make what I do now

I am liking canary wharf...but I will have to visit the area...

How far away from the heart of the city is it?

It can be a very nice area, especially in the summer. It's probably only really worth living there if you get a job in the area.

It feels quite isolated from the rest of London because you're not within easy walking distance of anywhere else of interest. The only major tube line is the Jubilee line, which can take less than 20 minutes to get to Bond Street. However, you may often have to take the Jubilee line well out of your way, then change to another line to get to where you want to be. Plus the tube isn't 24 hours, so if you stay out late you'll have to get a night bus (which will take forever to get that far) or a taxi (£££!).

Really, to choose the best location to live in you need to know:
a) where you'll hangout most of the time
b) where you'll be working

If you can give us some info about what job you're likely to be doing and the kind of places you hang out we might be able to narrow somewhere down (for example, indie/art crowd like East & NE London, fashionista/gossip girl crowd like West, RnB/celeb spotters LOVE the West End... and so on.)

A) I am kinda of nerdy and futuristic person.....a bit of a history/politics junkie as well.....

B) I am a fresh engineering grad ....B.S in Physic and Electrical Engineering...M.S. in Computer Science ... I MIGHT go back for a Ph.D depending on if I like 'work:"

I'd probably say Islington could be a good bet for you, you might let it around Angel.

Apart from Canary Wharf though, there aren't really any super modern areas of London, you just get the odd modern building amongst lots of period buildings.

I recommend coming and taking a look around before you sign any long leases. Perhaps just do a short-term house share whilst you get your bearings. Gumtree is good for that.
