I might be going to greece in the summer, where in greece does /trv/ recommend me to go? Since I am kinda unsure about exactly where

Hi, I live in Greece.

If you like nightlife you should go to Mykonos, but in my opinion the best place to go overall is Crete, where you can go sightseeing as well as swim and also has decent nightlife (whole Greece does actually).

Don't go to Mykonos, it's pretty disgusting and chock full of faggots.

was thinking about Crete, is it anymore expensive than the other cities around greece?

No it's actually cheaper, probably the cheapest place in Greece (of the ones that are worth visiting anyway) if you search a bit.

What do you want to do? Sightseeing, beaches, do you prefer scenic attractiveness like rolling hills etc... snow capped mountains?

Epirus is quite a nice place for the latter.

I had my bar mitzvah on Rhodes. It's an incredible place (with the exception of the actual Greeks, who are, overall, a disgusting people) with an incredible history of Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Jewish, Ottoman, and Italian influences stretching back thousands of years. Plus, the most amazing beach I've ever visited is a about an hour away from the Old Town, with an acropolis overlooking the bay. Great place to visit.

I don't think a Jew should be telling anyone how 'disgusting' certain people are.

Well my hatred for modern Greeks stems from actual experiences I've had with them. Nearly every Greek I've ever met is loud, rude, tacky, dirty, and antisemitic.

Honestly, as far as the Israel Palestine conflict goes - I dont give a shit. You can keep on killing each other for all I care and it's not my problem as I enjoy the relative peace of my own country.

However, Greece was one of the first states in the world to award legal equality to Jews in the 1850s and by and large asides from the far left and far right no one has a problem with them.

As for being loud, well, thats just our nature.

Yeah im probably going to visit greece too upcoming summer.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Greek_forest_fires

How did those fires affect turism and such?

I haven't heard much positive things about mykonos (except nightlife - but that's not the most important thing what we're looking for). We're looking for some beaches and maybe some sightseeing (ancient ruins and such).. of course some nightlife would be nice to experience.

Hey I'm not disputing the fact that the Greek government was for the most part very pro-Jew. I'm just saying, when the Nazis were about to invade Rhodes, who were the first people the Jews turned to? The fucking imam of the Muslim community. Not the Greeks. They sold out the Jews big time, and in my experience the Jews are not appreciated. Greece is the only place I've truly experienced antisemitism.

The forest fires mainly affected the Peloponnese, reconstruction work in some areas is still ongoing, but it's mostly little towns and so on. Unless your planning on hiking around the peloponnese (which is a hell of a lot of fun) it probably won't affect you.

If you want to check out ancient stuff you can go all over, Athens is the main place. But also Northern Greece has many ruins, the best area (for me at least) though - is Mystras (old Byzantine town w/ ruins in the South).

In general for beaches I would advise one of the islands. Not Mykonos though, I personally dont like it.

Well I'm sorry you feel that way. Maybe you just met the wrong people. Athens and Thessaloniki are a lot more cosmopolitan. A hero of the 1940 war against Italy was a Jewish officer who was killed in a fixed bayonet charge.

I'm not sure about Rhodes. But on Zakynthos and elsewhere there was help for the Jews:

>The 275 Jews of the island of Zakynthos, however, survived the Holocaust. When the island's mayor, Carrer, was presented with the German order to hand over a list of Jews, Bishop Chrysostomos returned to the Germans with a list of two names; his and the mayor's. The island's population hid every member of the Jewish community. When the island was almost levelled by the great earthquake of 1953, the first relief came from the state of Israel, with a message that read "The Jews of Zakynthos have never forgotten their Mayor or their beloved Bishop and what they did for us."[3]

Anyway, this is not a history board. So I dont want to mess up the intentions of others and I'll leave it at that.

I have found this site to look up ferries http://www.gtp.gr/ , are there more useful sites for turists?

Is there any open wlans around (should i take nokia n810 with me)? How about maps, could they be found online?

I would love to visit some smaller islands, one which was recommended to me is Samos. Does anyone have other suggestions?

I think Patras city council is planning to have a all encompassing wlan thing.

Culture Ministry has a decent website if you want to check out sights. Also, if you are into the arts the IHT has English Kathimerini in it every day which has a list of art events (orchestral performance, opera, theater etc...)

Ironic part is that today's Greeks are ethnic mutts. Look back to the Odyssey, in which Homer refers to "fair haired, blue eyed greeks". How many of those do you see now days?
>> anonymous of athens !SysNpnp3nU
>>4037

Where does Homer say that? I have the Odyssey right here. Also, if we were such mutts, then surely our language would not have the contiguity it does..

what? It's actually stupid western movies always portraying greeks with blond hair and blue eyes.

That was one of the reasons why I considered the 300 to be actually good.
