Barcelona is awesome, but is getting expensive.

I'd say
Italy > Spain > Turkey
But since now Italians elected Berlusconi and Spaniards voted socialist, you might consider switching their places in the hot Mediterranean places to visit list.

How current politicians could have an influence on tourists is beyond me.
If you are interested in contact with the locals, people in Italy and Spain are very similar.
The landscape and the art can be different.
(NO matter how much I love Spain, there isn't a Venice there)

The Basque region in the north is Interesting bc they want independence from Spain. The origin of the dialect is also unknown, It is not based on Latin.
Pampolna is also located in this region.
Barcelona is awesome. and the little island of Ibiza is a crazy fuckn party island full of some of the largest clubs in the world.
I have not been in the south

Anyone is going to Sweden, snowman.

Anyway, I have a rule for my trips: Southern of countries are usually an interesting places. Visit somewhere of Andalucia: Malaga is not soo bad, Sevilla have great monuments but It's very hot in summer, Cadiz looks like La Havana (very curious), Granada is a great place if you're young (the typical european university city and you could visit la Alhambra). Visit the wikipedia and look some pictures.

In conclusion, Andalucia is the part of spain that you have seen on TV and read with Hemingway

Newfag to international affairs.

NO ONE wants to be part of Spain. Galicia, Catalonia, the Canary Islands (And to a lesser extent Navarre, Andalusia, Aragon and Castille). The Basque country is only notable because it, unlike the others, currently has a militant seperatist group operating within it. That's not to say the other haven't in the past.

Anyways, the Basque country is the richest region of Spain. So I wouldn't make my stay in there too long if I were you.

If I lived under Franco fascism for that fucking long, I too would want to get the fuck out

I lived in Spain many years, and only in Catalonia and the Basque country the separatist movement is significant, with almost 50% of the population supporting total independence, or at least greater autonomy. In Galicia, Andalusia and the other regions you mention only a small minority demand self-rule. My guess is that Spain will get rid of the "estado de las autonomías" and become a full fledged federal state during the next decade. Anyway they aren't as messed up as Belgium still.

You forgot the Canary Islands.
Also Galicia has a couple separatist party members in legislature, don't they?

And Belgium isn't as messed up as Russia or Somalia or Georgia, in ascending order.

Canary islands want to be independence? lawl They have no taxes due to the distance from the peninsula and the have a 50% off in flights to the rest of Spain. In addition, employeers earn a 50% more than in the rest of Spain. Don't make me laugh.

PS: To 24160, the richest region of Spain is Madrid, liar.

you're not going to have trouble finding flights into spain but if you stay in a big city you may be looked down upon. Try to get a industrial job and join the CNT-FAI(big labour union). After the anarchists won the spanish civil war, the country was pretty destabilized and went through a series of bloody military junta's that they are still recovering from. Catalonia is pretty nice, see if you can work on a collectively run farm. Go to aragon to chill in the anarchist communes. Pretty awesome country, hope you enjoy it :)
