Eurotrip Anonymous
Hi, /trv/
My friends and I want to go on a trip around Europe after college.

Must-visits are Italy, France, Switzerland and Amsterdam.
Do any of you recommend anywhere else to visit? Particularly cities, not just countries. It would be better to have a destination, than just turn up on a train one day.

Britfag here, so leave out places in England :P
Pic related.

Prague, perhaps one of the best examples of untouched medieval architecture in Europe.

Since you seem to being doing the best hits of Euro tourism

make sure to visit pompeii and herculaneum.
herculaneum was a small town but it wasnt destroyed by lava and rocks, only had some ashrain, hence most buildings are intact.

also climb the vesuvius and make a daytrip to the isle capri.

pizza originated from naples too so go eat pizza at some small pizzabooth.

Agreed.

The Naples and Sorrento areas are really nice in that part of Italy. Capri, Pompeii, etc, are must-visits. You might also consider going down to Amalfi, good beaches.

The lot of you would have a great time village-hopping around the Puszta in Hungary. If you get tired of that, you could head to Hajduszoboszlo for the continent's best spa treatments.

Lyon
Barcelona (Go to Tabeloga (sp?) Amusement park, enter nearby church and pay 2 Euro to go to the top. The view is better than Eiffel Tower)

After visiting Italy and Switzerland, take some time to go to Stuttgart. Amazing city, the people are nice and the surroundings are breathtaking. Schloss Solitude, just to name one. The Schwarzwald is just a few kilometers to the west. Further west there's Strasbourg, where you may start exploring France.

A few tips on Italy (northern italianfag here): when visiting the south, stay the fuck away from the outskirts of main tourist cities (e.g. Naples, Palermo, Lecce... even Rome) unless you know some locals there who can guide you. Not only they are mindboggingly unattractive (at best) and mostly unsafe, but the little organization you may find in the centre of town decreases as you move away from the main tourist attractions. See the sights, and god are they beautiful, but don't expect to find much more. Rule of thumb: the more you go south, the worse it gets.

Central Italy is mostly alright, Tuscany kicks ass, Umbria is a little known gem, and the central-eastern coast is well worth more than a quick peek.

The north is generally well-organized in therms of transport, public services etc., but don't expect them to be reliable during the summer. Maybe only the north eastern corner (Trentino, eastern Veneto and Friuli-Venezia-Giulia) is up to european standards, but then again, remember it is still formally part of Italy.
Turin is a wonderful city, Milan is tremendously uninteresting unless you're into fashion and shit. Venice needs no introductions, and you really should go there at least once while you can.

Why not try Stockholm?

I'm doing something similar this summer. Me and some friends are headed to Paris, Bruges, Amsterdam, Berlin, Prague (very very cheap), Venice, Montpellier and Carcasonne. I'd quite like to go to Spain but we aren't going to have the time.

Switzerland:
Zurich, great for parties and a lot of stuff to do
St.Gallen, culture/parties/football/fun
Locarno, looks like italy, except it's in Switzerland and people don't act like italians :)

Germany:
Hamburg, GO THERE. I've been there a few times
Frankfurt. Nothing else to say :)

In order:

Amsterdam
Prague
Paris
Barcelona
Moscow
Vienna
Stockholm
Madrid
Rome
Belgrade
Pripyat
St. Petersburg
Oslo
Athens
Bucharest (though avoid if you dont like seeing slums aswell as a nice city)

That should get you started. After that, just visit countries and guess-plan when you're there :)

Also, Ireland.

Amerifag here...

If you're interested in WWII, go to the Normandy coast, especially Bayeux. They have a D-Day museum there, as well as many tour companies willing to take you to the beaches and other spots like that.

If you're sick of Britfag weather, the South of France is quite nice from what I hear, like Monte Carlo and Nice.

Paris is of course a city with tons to see. Invalides, the Catacombs, the Louvre, etc.

Put Poznan, Poland on your list. It's a wonderful little city with quite a bit to see, and it's got a quaint, small-town feel that I really liked.

I'm "meh" on Italy as a whole. There's nothing really there in the entire country that I HAVE to see.
