I've always wanted to go to the Kerguelen Islands. One day as I child, I saw it on my globe and thought, "What an exotic place. This large island and it's thousands of miles from anywhere," and ever since it's stuck with me. However I know that such a prospect is nearly impossible considering it's in the middle of nowhere.

ITT places you want to go to, but never will

Greenland. The idea that the largest city is smaller than most universities has always sort of dumbfounded me. I mean, I thought where I was from was rural, I couldn't imagine living there.

Greenland is not that unrealistic. I have friends who been there.

Well, I mean, I could go; I meant unrealistic in terms of I will never spend that much money on glorified eskimos.

I want to go to Antarctica. Specifically, the Sovetskaya base, which is the furthest point in Antarctica from sea.

That's all I have of that one, so this is the best I can do of another Andaman/Nicobar native.

Allegedly from an old National Geographic, used as fappage by Nelson Mandela while incarcerated (at the time, he was under the false impression she was actually from Africa).

BTW, nobody gets permits to go there. Controlled by the Indian military.

Svalbard.

Though I'm not actually sure how accessible that is.

what always impresses me is just how HUGE greenland is. traversing it is like traversing the length of south america. but more, because greenland is bigger. yet, much like Antarctica, you never hear nothing about it ever.
>> Anonymous
>>30224

it's not actually that big. it's a shitty projection that always shows it that way. in reality, australia is bigger than greenland.

If you're a danefag you hear about it all the time.
The natives have massive problems with alcohol, drugs and child molestation. Other than that nothing ever happens on that icy rock.

A TERRIBLE PLACE, FROM WHAT I'VE HEARD
THERE'S A BOAT FROM KHUUL IF YOU'VE ANY REASON TO GO

There is one merchant in town who spends most of his time at the tavern and two shipmasters who presumably share the single seagoing vessel moored at their dock.

It's not like you're going to be abducted or have spies following you around everywhere. China is pretty tourist-friendly nowadays, unless you're in a politically-sensitive area like Tibet (though that was tourist-friendly as well until the riots this year).

What I really want to do one day is, get myself there with a large amount of alcohol, and run in drunk and naked. I will either get killed with ARROWS or get into the most exclusive friendship circles ever. Worth it IMO.

While this is true, it's not as though other ideologies aren't allowed to exist. Just like the Repubs and the Dems, the level of intra-party political differences in the CCP is enormous. Party politics is still played out in China, but within a single-party framework.

The CCP is communist or capitalist or Third Way or environmentalist whatever, depending on whichever faction holds power.

Svalbard is possible. There was a story on Kuro5hin a while back about going to iceland and then svalbard, as a tourist.

Me, I wanna go to Tahiti. I got the itch for that after (much like the OP) looking at google earth and thinking "shit, that's in the middle of nowhere!"

>>30192

Glad to see I'm not the only asshole who wants to go there. Like you, I saw it on a map once, huge chunk of rock in the middle of nowhere, windy as hell, completely barren, and thought, why not? Wouldn't mind going there once, just to see it.

Anyway, back to the thread, some places I wanna go, but probably never will:

Jan Mayen
South Georgia Islands
Tristan de Cunha
Faroe Islands
Cocos Islands (Indian Ocean)
Yap
Aland

I have a fascination with out-of-the-way places. Novaya Zemlya was also on the list, due in part to a book I read on Henry Hudson and his famous search for the "Northeast Passage". However, I just found out its been turned into a nuclear wasteland and therefore, not a nice place to visit anymore. Too bad.

I'd like to visit the Falkland islands, its like a combination of desolate, isolated barren rock like OP's islands, and a little rural British town.

Plus its got some interesting history and some stuff like destroyed armored cars and whatnot.

Plus is right around South America, which I plan to visit anyways.
