Are the ampedbikes.com electric bicycle kits worth the price?

Is there any middle ground between $30 SLA batteries and $250 NiMH ones?

Do bicycles count under /trv/ or /fit/?

don't worry about it. /n/ dosen't hate bikes per se, just the fixed gear forum copypasta that keeps on getting spammed.

also, have you checked craigslist and compared prices with outfitters?

The best I've seen on the local Craigslist is still just some dumbass who wants to see a used E-ZIP Trailz at $150 more than the local Wal-Mart is selling them new - about $400, but the bike is 50lbs before batteries and only wired up to use SLAs, which add another 20lbs, plus it's supposed to be very loud. SLA batteries need to be replaced after a year or two of average use anyway, and the all-in-one bricks the Trailz uses are quasi-proprietary and so $120 or so instead of $60 for three.

I haven't looked around local bike shops yet - I'll be doing that later this week. I guess I'm hoping somebody knows a secret mecca of NiMH batteries that are in the $100 range instead of $200+.
