Hey /trv/, I want to move up to Seattle and buy a reasonably affordable house there. I am moving from the deep south. Any tips/advice for someone who has never lived in anything more than a small city?

Yes, get to know your neighbours BEFORE you sign the contract

Really? Is that how americans do it? We Germans dont give a shit about our neighbours. We just say "hi" when we meet them on the way to work or coming back home etc.

Americans don't do this either, must be some weird Seattle thing. Or that poster is just retarded.

Well as long as he isn't moving to Seattle's trailer parks or something, I doubt there will be a lot of druggies running meth labs around.

No, it's 6 years or so off before I can do this, but I plan to buy a smallish house, 2-3 beds in a decent neighborhood. A fixer-upper, maybe :3

Better be rich then. Seattle is one of the more expensive areas in the country, and compared to the Deep South, you will be fucking dirt poor.

You should move to hill top, its a really nice place in washington. Cheap too, and close to seattle. Real Close.

Seattle is a pretty peaceful city. I really doubt it'll matter much who his neighbors are

I live two hours north of Seattle. Lived in a lot of places throughout my life... but this is the best part of the US i've lived in by far.

Seattle's pretty awesome. It IS one of the more expensive cities to live in, and cities arn't exactly cheap in the first place. But, it's expensive for a reason.
Be prepared for rain. Winter is a near unstoppable rainfest. It drizzle-rains for weeks. Summer and fall is fucking awesome, though.

We don't want you. Enjoy your passive aggressive neighbours who smile at you but actually hate you

not hate.. just don't care. just a gesture.

Well if all goes well I'll have a 40k/y job when I get out of school, I'm going to be an RN. Something small is fine with me, 2 beds would be fine.

Oh and I love the rain, thats part of why I'm moving :D
