So with travelling I'll be having a few small electronics with me. By few, I mean my laptop.

And I'll be needing a voltage converter from what I've been told for Europe. Now I've browsed around in Amazon so I'm not really familiar with this equipment but some are just stand alone adapters and some are just stand alone converters or I would have to get both and put them together or something.

Can anyone recommend one? One that won't fry my laptop or any electronics from the US?

you only need an adaptor if the thing your charging or using has a power brick, so I think your laptop would be fine, as long as the item has some sort of power brick. If it doesn't, which is rare nowadays, you need a converter.

I just used a European adapter with my laptop plug when I went there

so just an adaptor? I thought it had something to do with the voltage being higher than ours.

do you have a link of the product or a name model of it?

yeah, but the power brick will take whatever power comes out of the wall and convert it into an acceptable form for your laptop. that's the purpose of the power brick. as such, you just need to be able to plug said brick into said wall to enjoy said power.

ahh ok thanks, never knew that.

i used an adaptor for my mp3 player last time i was in Britain (from merca), worked like a charm.

Be sure that the range of your converter "power brick" covers whatever country you're going to be in. They're not magical black boxes that convert anything electrical into power that your laptop can run on, they're transformers that can handle specific voltage and cycle rates. As far as I know, they're all for AC power, and I don't know of any countries that use DC but you should make sure. Plug it into the wrong thing, at best it won't work and at worst it will blow up.

There should be a sticker on your laptop's power converter that says what it will handle. Usually something like INPUT: 100-240V 50-60HZ.

ya that's what it says

Input 100-240v 50-60Hz
Output 19v

so it'll be fine?

yup.

If you're bringing your phone, iPod, PSP, etc., consider bringing a multi-socket adaptor, one with an extension cord.

Now for small stuff like my camera battery charger, cellphone charger, and ds figure it would get fried perhaps but what's a good voltage converter adapter?

Power converters won't work for the DS Lite charger while in Ireland. You have to truck down to HMV and buy one. :\
just an electronics fyi.
>> OPs
So let's say /trv/ I'm bringing:

- My Duracell charger
- DS Lite
- GBA SP

I'd be fine with an adaptor? None of these seem to say 240V on the bricks, but considering the DS Lite should be the same everywhere I have my doubts. =/

What's a good converter, and where can I find 'em?

Shouldn't the DSLite and GBA SP accept 240V/60hz even if it's from north america?

Doesn't your government mandate this kind of information on the labels? My battery charger says it will take 100-240V and 50-60Hz on the back.

It should, this is Cananuckistan afterall. It only says 120V 50/60Hz, "JPN/US", making me think this doesn't support Euroland's 240V. But even then, wtf?

The thing is, the power supply for the DS is sold seperately for each region.
I, for example, have one that says 230V~50Hz. This one would work with your DS as well, but your power supply won't work, since it is most probably designed for 110V~60Hz (or whatever you got in the US). Even if you use a plug adapter it won't work, since the voltage as well as the frequency are different.
In the worst case the power supply and/or your DS could brick.

Alright, so I need a 240V to 120V converter then, right?

no idea, I had an Ireland converter that worked fine with other things I brought, but with the DS Lite charger it just wouldn't fly.

It should...

wait, so does ireland use the three prong square plug? or is it the 2 rounded plug one?
