I'm thinking of heading to Jakarta for a couple of months. Anyone been there? What's it like? How did you find it for such a long time?

I've been there for a couple of weeks, but what's it like for a long time?

If you've been there for a couple of weeks you already know. Just stretch your expierience some more with everyday boredom.

well if you got a car then no complains except for the jam, jam, jam, jam, police, jam, 30% increased gas price, jam, jam, jam, shitty road, beggars, peddlers, pollution, jam, jam, jam, jam...if you wanna stay there for a long time, better prepare yourself and learn how to drive the jakarta way! oh and dont try to walk though, pollution and watch out for pickpockets...i was born and raised there btw so i know :)

I tried to explain that an hour trip was a long time to a friend from Jakarta's parents. Then I realised that an hour trip for them is normal. I felt like an arse.

I'd rather a scooter, but I think either way I'm screwed

Jakarta's a nice place to live but not so to visit. Not too many sights to see, it's overcrowded and if you're not used to traffic jams, it's a nightmare. If you plan on visiting Indonesia, take a tour of Java, head over to Sumatra or even surf on Kuta beach in Bali. Jakarta is more like a stopover than an actual tourist destination.
