I just came back from a trip there, so here's some tips:
-People will gouge you for water, and you'll be drinking more of it than you ever have or will in your life.
-If you go to any bazaar, expect to be harassed. Its funny if not mildly annoying to have people all around you chanting, "Hello, my American friend!"
-Coffee shops have a fixed price inside, but outside its whatever they can get.
-Don't do the "Petra by night" tour. You don't see much, all you get is a long walk narrowly avoiding the day's feces and some bedoin folk singing(bad and goes on for way too long).
-See Petra by day though. It's a VERY long walk, most people don't realize that the place featured in the pic is just the beginning (which is far by foot as it is).
-Don't take the horses offered at the entrance. Do take the donkeys later on. You'll thank me.
