If money and time is not the problem I suggest the following.
Go to Boston, rent car, drive down to NYC, Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Pittsburgh and all the way to Key west. Then back up via Atlanta, Nashvile, Cincinati, Indianapolis, Detroit, and stop in Chicago. Board plane and fly to Denver. Rent 4x4 car and drive to Salt Lake City, go north to Seattle then south again via Portland, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego. Now North again to Las Vegas. From Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon and then down to Phoenix. Go from Phoenix to San Antonio, Houston, Dallas. From Dallas make your way to the East to Memphis, New Orleans and then feel free to go back to Boston the way you want.
