Hey /trv/, i'm traveling on a plane and i'm wanting to take my computer with me. Should I try to pack it as carry on? Do they have authority to inspect my computer and will they inspect it and find all my CP? if so, any other suggestions? Don't really want to check it in, they would probably damage it.

They have the authority to not only inspect it but confiscate it forever without reparations. Put the CP on an external drive and check that.

Sauce?

Oh yeah I'm only traveling from Hawai'i to Washington.

If I had any CP on my hard drive it would be encrypted beyond reason, 4096-bit PGP, on top of other encryption schemes just to be extra paranoid. However, since you're not flying internationally you have little to worry about.

Any good ways to encrypt? Good as in quick and easy?

so-so. - Put it in an encryped rar

good - true crypt volume hidden inside a file and wipe free space +traces

better - true crypt volume in "empty" disk space on external media or partion

best - true crypt volume uploaded to a private file hoster for your flight.
