Suggested locations for a trip of self-discovery. I am not religious and I'm not looking for a God but I just want to get the fuck away from the rat-race and find some other meaning to life. I feel an urge to go and live up a mountain somewhere for 6 months and meditate and shit and maybe find myself a guru like the Beatles did

Where do you live now, what languages do you speak, when would you be doing this, etc, etc.

For me personally, what would be cool would be to either go chill with hippies in California (around San Fran), or go exploring via motorbike through the mountains of southern China. Japan, Nepal, Germany, or Switzerland would also be cool.

Though if you REALLY want to get the fuck away from everything, think of the likes of Mongolia, northern Scotland, Svalbard, the Falkland Islands, or some other super desolate, isolated place.

Spoiler: You don't actually have to go anywhere to do this.

I heard about this somewhere and I know there are legit programs for it, basically you work and live on a rural rice plantation in Japan. That way you'd be out of modern Japan but could tour some of the spiritual sites. That's what I would do, plus it's safer then living in the woods in Alaska *cough*.

Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

You'll never be content on this earth, nor should you want to be.

I highly recommend responsibletravel.com and i-escape.com for some inspiration.

I didn't quite go to the extremes you're talking about, but went to the Golden Buddha Beach resort (via i-escape) on the west coast of Thailand for some time by myself. I could go exploring or chill on the beach all day and sometimes not see another person at all.
