The difference here is you seem to actually have a plan and aren't a tard. Sage not necessary.

Doesn't look like you can go wrong with itinerary since you're hitting up a ton of places. Too bad you can't go for longer. Sorry I'm not much help but I'll throw in my approval for this thread.

Looks good, go for it.

You seem well prepared. All power to your trip!
However don't be too strict with yourself -- if you want to go explore some more then fuck the itinerary and have an adventure. Get lost and have fun.

You, sir, are prepared; no sage needed.

The part of my itinerary between Fukuoka and Keihanshin region is a big wildcard. The plan is 2 nights in Fukuoka, another 2 nights somewhere to the east but before the Kansai region, and then most likely Osaka.
Fukuoka -> ???? -> Osaka
I really don't know of anything to do in those areas except for that day trip to the Hiroshima peace museum

Don't foget to hang around in Shibuya and Harajuku for NICE girl-watching.
Also Yoyogi-park inbetween those two areas rock, its like a jurrasic park with lots of weird ppl.

Has anyone ever done the study abroad thing? I'm nerdy enough to visit a nice university library and look at engineering textbooks in a language I don't fully comprehend. Unfortunately, Waseda's library is not open to the public.

An anon in the JET thread did and recommended it. I hope to do it in college b/c it sounds like a great way to meet Japanese folks of your age, as opposed to being more limited to the work environment of JET. JET is first and foremost a job, where as a study abroad is more focused on the social aspect.

Slightly revised itinerary. I'm actually arriving on the 6th, not the 5th. One day chopped off of Tokyo area stay

It's an awfully busy itinerary. I would want more time in each place if it were my trip. Kyoto alone is worth at least 4 days imo.

As regards to what to do in that region, it really depends on what you like. When I made the trip a few years back, we ended up actually going down to Fukuoka/Hakata before circling back to Osaka/Kyoto (Basically Tokyo -> Sapporo -> night train to Tokyo -> Fukuoka -> Osaka/Kyoto -> Tokyo for flight) A few suggestions...

1. http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e4900.html (Koya-san is AMAZING if you're into the more natural side of things.)

2. Hiroshima Museum (tbh, it's more of a day trip thing than anything else)

3. Fukuoka/Hakata night life (eh, Fukuoka was kinda lame. Last time I went rap was huge down there, so they have pimped out cars and shitty clubs but so much posing). Hakata ramen is famous and so so so good if you're up for it.

tbh, though, I'd say perhaps see Fukuoka at night, Hiroshima the next day, and then spend some quality time in Kyoto/Osaka. Both places are amazing and it's so easy to get lost there for a couple of days. I'm not exactly where the JR East can take you (although I'd recommend Sendai for a quieter time), but perhaps if you can use it from Kyoto/Osaka/Kobe, then you could climb Mt. Fuji (cliche, I know, and this time of year isn't that great for it, but watching the sun rise on "top" of it is remarkably memorable)

Also, if you're interested, I'd recommend spending a night at a manga cafe just for the experience. It's usually pretty cheap and it's seriously like an otaku heaven.
