What's the best/cheapest way to get to Cuba from the United States? What will it be like when I get there?

NOT invading the Bay of Pigs.

Ha ha. But seriously, I'm not aware of many legal means to do so. The only one I'm aware of is being part of a mission trip. Go down there with some Presbyterians and build a house. Other, extralegal options include going through Canada.

Go through Canada, but if you get caught, you'll probably land your ass in prison.

Enjoy.

Fly there? Surely in the LAND OF THE FREE, you have the FREEDOM to go wherever you want?

>LAND OF THE FREE

It's land of the "free", now. We added the quotes a few years back. These days, we're only free to complain. And it looks like this will be taken from us shortly.

Start an AQ cell, plot a terrorist bombing, and get caught. You'll get flown to Guantanamo, free of charge, all expenses paid.

>What will it be like when I get there?
Ah, I won't spoil the surprise. I promise it's an experience you'll remember all your life, though.

Thankee. I have pretty cool plans for free trips to other countries as well. Iraq, Afghanistan, and soon Iran.

Stay away! We europeans enjoy a carribean country with almost no americans ;-)

Easy to get there.. Cuba is cool as shit.. Fly to Nassau, Bahamas or Cancuun, Mexico. Then fly into to Havana. Cuban customs won't stamp US passports. Women are hot, people are really cool.

make sure to convert your money to canadian dollars or whatever before flying to cuba, as there you'll need to convert your money to Cuban Convertible Pesos, and they take a 20% or so tax from USD.

I've heard nothing's off limits to tourists?

Depends on where you live. If you're near Canada you might be able to score some cheap charter tickets. I went through Cancun because Cubana tickets were (at the time, early 2000) $200 round trip, payable in cash, which was perfect for me. Getting to Cancun is pretty cheap as well due to the number of tourist flights. Note that Cubana has a pretty bad safety record. On the bright side, they fly some very interesting Soviet era equipment which you may not get a chance to see anywhere else outside of Russia, Eastern Europe, and parts of Africa.

Rumor has it some countries, such as Jamaica, DR, and possibly Canada, have special immigration stamps for passengers arriving from Cuba. If you're a US citizen that could be bad for you.

There is an apartheid system in place to keep the locals and the tourists apart. It's not hard to violate this system, but expect to be questioned by the authorities at every step. As long as you don't do anything really dumb like try to buy drugs, you probably won't suffer for your efforts, but you may cause headaches for the locals with whom you fraternize.

Hopefully you can go with a female friend so you're not constantly hounded with offers of Cuban hookers. You will be followed around by Cuban cops if you choose to roam the city freely. You will constantly be asked for gifts by everyone.

It was not what I expected at all (I read some travel books about Cuba and believed everything that they said), but I don't regret going.

Just go to Miami. It's practically the same thing.

Miami Cubans are the lowest form of life on this planet, so no.

the miami cubans that are low lives are the recent ones from cuba, the ones that came before the 80s were quite civilized and educated. so yes, going to miami will give a perfect idea of what filth there is in cuba because that filth is now here in the usa.

Sup oldschool Cuban. It's not nice to look down on your countrymen just because your parents have been here for a little longer and have had enough time to save up to buy you an H2.
