I am going to Ireland in a few months. Am I aloud to bring back liquor back to the states?

Unless Ireland is quirky, I don't see the problem. The US serves alcohol on the flight itself for most intercontinental trips. (Of course, I assume you are leaving from the US). US customs is more concerned with fruit or anything that could be a vector than closed, sterile liquids like alcohol.

Though, trying to bring it on as carry-on is another story entirely. You can't have more than some ridiculously small amount of non-water liquids (3oz? 90ml?)

If it's vodka you're after then I don't know why you'd bother; it's almost certainly cheaper in the states.

don't take it in your carry on because then its a bomb, but if you put it in your suitcase you'll be fine

100ml is the limit. I assume you can still buy booze in the Duty Free shops in departures, otherwise why would they have the shit there?
