Pic unrelated, first time here /trv/, and i come to you for advice.

Id like to try moving to another country, my current one is Scotland, and i just want to try a new one out.

Im currently only 18, but hell, planning goes a long ways if you think im too young right now.

But im up for new places and experiences. So ITT: We talk about viable countries for me to move it.

My only language is english, and any other info needed, just ask.

Well, you could theoretically move anywhere, but most viable would be EU countries where English is widely spoken. With that in mind, you're safest with Sweden, Finland, Netherlands, Germany, Ireland, Denmark, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Malta, and Slovenia (the majority speak English in all these countries. From what I hear, Swedes tend to be the most fluent).

Were your parents born anywhere else, so you could get a second passport? Otherwise, without that and without a post-secondary education, your prospects for immigrating anywhere else are made slimmer.

Ive gotten my education finished, nothing past the normal school end. And my parents are born here, nothing foreign.

A thread on /v/ about some German guy wanting to move out of his country thanks to excessive videogame censorship got me going again. People were mentioning Argentina and Austria as good places. Friends keep mentioning Canada but id rather have somewhere more foreign, if you get me.

Europe is always the best idea i suppose, since my country partly belongs to the EU. I just want to hear opinions on each place from you guys. Just to give me a wider view of the world, since reading Wikipedia can be a bad idea.

Its a better idea than asking /trv/ brah.

Anyway, what are you looking for in a country? In terms of politics, law, scenery, culture, cities, costs, etc?

Suppose id like freedom, not too much of a nanny state like how the UK is turning out. Neutrality too, none of this WE MUST WAR shit.

I read Austria has permanent neutrality, but a 6 month conscription. Think that will apply to immigrants? I wouldnt like to do military service, because im a man of peace. I just want to live life and have fun.

Scenery doesnt really bother me, and being so young, i suppose id like costs to be low. Cities, i like them. To live in some pokey small town in the middle of nowhere wouldnt be my flavour. Ive grown up in Glasgow all my years and i couldnt stand not having hustle and bustle everywhere.

Culture isnt exactly much of an issue. I might be some metalfag videogame nerd but i can appreciate everything.

Not making myself very specific, am i?

Well, in this sense, pretty much any developed country is better than the UK. In Europe, Netherlands or Spain would probably be best. Switzerland of course, is always neutral, but is very expensive and would presumably be harder to get into what with it not being in the EU and all. Internationally, Canada seems to be one of the countries most respectful of individual rights, though you already expressed no interest living there.

Immigrants yes, so long as your a citizen. Though I imagine if you're simply a foreign resident it wouldn't apply to you. Not entirely sure though, not being Austrian myself. Though here is a picture of countries with conscription, so you might want to keep that in mind if immigrating anywhere (of course, the specifics will differ country by country).

Berlin. Awesome, big, cheap city. Though finding work may be difficult, and there are still lame German laws.

As a videogamer, Germany is already off the list. Horrible laws, bumbling politicians terrified of stepping on toes over an issue most people have gotten over already.

Ill keep reading up on places for now, and check the thread occasionally for anyone elses ideas.

Hahaha, what?

Conscription usually applies to permanent residents or citizens, guys. A tourist isn't going to get drafted.

You could try Belize. It's an English speaking country in Central America, giving you the opportunity to travel the surrounding countries. Check this out:

You should learn a new language and go somewhere within the EU.

My second recommendation would be somewhere on the West Coast of Canada or USA. That's the best side of that continent.

The OP specified MOVING to another place. i.e. being a resident or citizen, not a tourist.

You don't have to be a legal resident in some countries to live there. Learn to visa restrictions.

Im looking to become a perma resident of another country, hopefully, and just wondering if even then it applies. Conscription, that is.

Some countries draft their permanent residents for military service. You'll have to check each one you're interested in to see.

There's quite a few countries for fast track to permanent residency status. Some are normal processes while others are economic investment type programs, which you'll probably never see a ROI on. Some of these countries include the DR, Uruguay, Panama, Belgium, etc.

My non-European suggestion would have to be Japan. It is a beautiful country, with pleasant people and delicious food.. cheap. You might have a little trouble with the written Japanese language, since it is used on most signs.. though usually there is an english translation or romanization beneath them.

European, though; I would suggest Latvia or Italy. Latvia, because of the beautiful coastline, beautiful women, and it is a different culture than many of the other nations.. inculuding the other Baltics. The economy is stable, you could definately find some sort of work. Teaching english, even.

Italy is also a very solid choice. Itallian is not generally difficult to learn. You are probably familiar with some aspects of the culture. I would reccomend staying near the big cities though, more work and easier to become accustom to.

I am not certain about why your education would restrict you from visiting these countries after some research. There are many things that could aid you in the border crossing process, you just have to find them!
