greetings /trv/. I'm hoping you can help me. A friend and i are considering a pretty major road trip across America. The idea is that we buy a decent car and just hit the road visiting as many states as possible before we head downwards, and try a tour of south america. Problem is we're not sure about the legalities of car ownership in the states (we're Britfags). Is it legal for a non-american citizen to buy and own a car in the states? Will we need a driving license other than a british license to drive legally? Basically any help you can pass on would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

if it's a short-term buy, as long as you have the signed pink slip and adequate insurance, you'll be fine. i don't know about travelling outside of the states though.

cool, thank you for that. i'm a little concerned about the insurance, though. am i going to need an american address to be able to obtain that?

not sure. i'd start checking travel insurance agencies if they could cover it.

good idea, at least now i have a place to start. ...seems its going to take a little more planning than simply getting of a plane with a bundle of money in hand.
thanks again for your help.
