I don't know if I should post this in /jp/ instead but here it goes anyway

I've got $1400 to spend on a trip to Tokyo, how can I stretch that money to last me for about a month over there?
I'm pretty low maintenance, I'm mostly worried about finding a place to stay, I'm not looking to buy anything either.
I don't know anybody over there but I am adaptive to any situation, I've traveled to south America with no money and not knowing the language and managed to live there for about a year, so doing drastic and insane shit like that is nothing new to me but I do acknowledge that it is a completely different society and culture so it could be more difficult or easier depending on the situation.
I know very basic Japanese, just enough to get me around (directions/food/etc) and I consider myself a people person.

So given that, can anyone give me some info, insight or help ?

Look into the budget hotels in the sanya / minami-senju area. It's the biggest slum in Tokyo so prices are really cheap, but it's cleaner and safer than your average city neighborhood in the US. You should be able to get a single room for around 3000 yen/night. A youth hostel may be slightly cheaper (2400-2600 yen/night for a shared room). Food is the hardest part, even basic ingredients in Japan are 3-5x what you would pay in the US. Expect to eat a lot of instant ramen and rice balls.

$1400? How are you even going to fly over there?

If you already bought a plane ticket, that might be doable. They've got all the cheap American chains over there so you could probably get by on fast food. Sucks that the exchange rate isn't working in your favor (assuming you're from the US).

The karaoke places will give you a discount if you go later in the evening and you can smuggle in your own alcohol instead of drinking their's. I've heard you can sleep in the internet cafes. I can't think of anymore now.
