Going to Wash, D.C. this weekend for 2 days for the first time ever. It's a 4 hour drive from me.

What are some things I should know before I go there?

Stay in the upper west quadrant. The rest of the city is not as safe as doesn't have too much to offer in general except crime.

Yeah.. don't venture outside of the touristy areas, with the exception of Georgetown.

Once youve seen the museums, there is absolutely nothing else in the city

pray.
You are literally going to the worst city in America.
Worse than Compton, Richmond (Cali), Oakland, Detroit, and Jersey City.
DC fucking sucks.

going into any of the museums is worse than getting on an airplane and you have to be vetted by your member of congress and the fbi before you're allowed in any .gov buildings. just stay away, go to the historic stuff in VA. alexandria, mt vernon, etc.

That is not true, just dont go to the bad places where you dont belong and your fine. Go to chinatown, watch a movie, bowl then eat at zaytinya.

Don't fall asleep on the lawn near the Capitol building. Security will only laugh at you when you wake up an hour later with a pretty serious sunburn (possible to get in D.C. even in March).

Wheelchaired veterans like to yell at strangers but they are harmless.

Pigeon-guy is awesome.

Don't drive directly into DC. Park somewhere like Silver Spring and take the metro in.

Enjoy 495. It doesn't matter if it's 4 am on a Tuesday it WILL be bumper to bumper.

not joking
i grew up in DC when you could just waltz into those places.
it was nice to see an open democracy in action. now the only people allowed unescorted in the halls of democracy are lobbyists.
tl;dr DC = capitol of fail
