Hey /trv/, I took a cursory look at this board and I have to say I'm impressed. I'm usually on less productive boards( use your imagination), so I expected a lot more trolling and a lot less humor.

Anyway, I traveled to Europe last summer and a couple of things didn't exactly go the way I wanted. One of those things was that I mostly got pictures of some of the most amazing views and locations in western civilization with a cell phone camera because I lost my point and shoot camera. It wasn't that good a camera, but it was way better than the cell phone camera, obviously.

I want to go back. Rome, Paris, probably Venice, Florence, London, and maybe a quick stop by Pisa between some of the Italian stops. I live in the states. On the west coast! So if I'm going to Europe again, I want to make the most of it.

What locations do you, /trv/, suggest to someone who wants to make the absolute most of a summer trip to Europe? I've been to all of the places that I mentioned before, but I was rushing and didn't know where to go/what to do, so hopefully this second trip will make the return more productive.

Also, while I am an American, I'm equally annoyed by the typical "American tourist" and consciously try my best not to be that fat lazy bastard climbing the cramped stairs to the top of St. Peter's Basilica.

Sorry. I digress. In exchange for your tips, advice, help, anything at all that you can offer me, I have this panorama that I stitched together. It's blurry in some places, but that's sort of the price one pays for using a cell phone camera...

Tl;dr I've been to Italy, France, and England( and also Austria, but I don't expect to go back), and I'm going back. Any other places that I should seek out/avoid? I promise to try not to ruin it by being a loud obnoxious tourist, if I can help it.

Er... I don't really go to /b/. I haven't in almost a year, really.

Sorry if this isn't an okay question to ask on /trv/...

Meh don't worry about him OP, we get a few faggots that spill over here from /b/ sometimes.

Oh I see. Sorry to hear that. I can understand if my post seems like a bit of a rant, heh.

I'm thinking about visiting Amsterdam, Brussels, and Copenhagen, but there are literally so many places worth visiting in Europe that if I just planned for the first cities that came to mind I'd be missing out on a lot of other good places to see. And of course I can take a lot of experience and advice from people who may have been/lived/currently live in some places in Europe.

Pisa has the leaning tower but that's about it. Maybe if it's on your route you can stop for a couple of hours to take a look at it, but at the end of the day it's a leaning tower, don't make too much of a detour just for it.

Also, Venice is awesome.

Yeh, ironically when I was on a train going to Milan someone said that if I went to Pisa, I should plan just to arrive, have lunch, go to the tower, take the picture, and get the heck out of there cause there's nothing else to do, haha.

And Venice IS awesome. I can't imagine a place quite like it anywhere else in the world.

Then again maybe Dubai will copy it at some point or something.

stay a couple of days chilling in Chianti instead of going to Pisa. Or, since you'll go in summer, travel to Sardinia: Costa Smeralda is beautiful.

Seconded. Don't forget Lucca, great town!

Got it. Lucca and Chianti. I'm thinking of getting a Eurail pass. Do you guys think I should just get the national pass for Italy and pay my way through France and England, or go for a Global pass?

I guess it all sort of depends on if I should go to other countries and locations. I'd really like to see Brussels and/or Luxembourg if I could, so maybe it would just be cheaper to get a global pass and take the train everywhere, heh.

Global pass... That can be pretty expensive. How much are they these days?

That's a really nice panorama for a cell phone camera. Anyway, personally I would really want to see Switzerland and the Alps. I have not had a chance to yet, though.
