Chernobyl Anonymous
This summer me and 2 friends are flying to Amsterdam and from there travel all over europe spending most nights in a ditch somewhere or in the woods. All three of us are very experienced woodsmen and we have enough money to make everything work. BUT we would like to head to Chernobyl but we have no idea what the laws are when it comes to roaming around there, anyone have any idea or can point me in the right direction?

you can take tours, wondering around on your own is very illegal(i think) and there re a few places with dangerous and lethal doses of radiation around.

Ya we know about the tours but we would much rather go on our own. Also we dont plan on visiting the reactor but the city near it, Prypiat.

it's illegal to go alone, and breaking that rule will hard cause whole area is guarded by the army very "tight", so it looks like tours are your only option.

From what I know there is a 30km off-limit zone around Chernobyl. Although, you can visit the plant and the city o Prypiat via travel agencies that set up such tours, for example http://www.tourkiev.com/chernobyl.php Most of them are 1 day tours.

You won't get in without having very close government or military ties. Sorry, a tourist tour is your only option.

You need a visa to go to Belarus.

and so on

im not sure what the radiation level in the pripyat area is, but its obviously enough to justify not lviing there. im pretty sure there are armed guards posted somewhere there, so youd want to make sure you have permission before going anywhere near

OP, Why do you want to go to Chernobyl? There are thousands of abandoned vilages and towns all around ex-ussr, no point geting arested.

You also need to check in with the three-eyed woodchuck near Kiev. He has six-eyed and two-tailed cousins living near Prypiat. ;)

is this that girl claim to ride a motorbike through pripyat, turns out it was bullshit

Pripyat and that abandoned island in japan are two places I really want to go

I SAID COME IN, DON'T STAND THERE.

HELLO, HELLO!

And so forth.

Seriously though, as cool as it would be to wander about, I'm not too keen on getting my ass handed to me by Ukraine's finest.

If you could, go with a tour (if that's possible). Considering the sorry state of the sarcophagus placed over the Chernobyl NPP, I'd doubt that you would be allowed anywhere within at least ten miles of the plant itself.

Just speculating 'n all.
