I stopped at the Reykjavik airport en route to Schipol, Holland. I'm assuming the airport is far away from the city itself, because I saw vast expanses of nothingness in all directions.

Iceland seems nice for the outdoorsy types; not me, though.

I was there last summer and it was really nice. I nearly starved while I was there, though. I am convinced it is the most expensive city in the world. The water has a kind of sulfur taste to it due to the geothermal heating, so I wanted a case of water bottles-- $50 equivalent. No thank you, I drank the egg water. I lived on hard boiled eggs and bread for the most part, but hit a few restaurants while I was there. The seafood is excellent.
Do the Golden Circle tour of you go. It's a must.

Reykjavik itself is a fine city, clean, very safe at all hours. It's expensive as any place I've ever been, though--for yourself and a companion, expect to spend $100USD/day easily. Also, the city itself is remarkably small, certainly smaller destination-wise than Boston if that's any use to you. My fiancee and I went for 4 days mid-week with no agenda or itinerary, and after a day and a half on foot, we were generally out of ideas and ended up getting out of the city, seeing the countryside on organized bus tours--the "Golden Circle" makes for a full day of getting around and seeing things you simply cannot see in the continental US. I highly recommend icelandair.com for inexpensive and comprehensive travel packages if that's your style. The nightlife is supposed to be phenomenal on the weekends, but we did not partake, however I highly recommend the flea market downtown after noon on Saturday.

Reykjavík and Oslo are pretty much the two most expensive cities to live in.

I'd stop for a week maybe, tops. Maybe even Greenland while I'm at it.

Just to explore. It looks cool, quiet, and calm. I like that. Kind of like Canada without the chinese.

I also highly recommend the Blue Lagoon, a fantastic open-air geothermal spa resort. You will smell like eggs afterward and your hair will be stiff as straw, but you will emerge feeling like more dumpling than man.

It's the place everyone and their mom wants to go to someday yet never will.

Reykjavik is expensive but has some cool places. If you're not too worried about driving a little it's always an option to camp outside the city. The churches are a neat place to visit even if you don't like religion, I mean it's free.

Google Perlan or "The Pearl" Iceland if you want to see a cool restaurant. It has a geyser IN the fucking place and it's shaped like a boob/pearl.

Iceland Air almost stranded me in their cold, lonely airport

it was one of the most unsettling things that has ever happened to me

My current roommate is from Iceland. He's buying all the stuff he can while here because "it's so cheap!"
