/trv/,
I've been given the opportunity to study abroad for six months, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go to the University of Manchester.

Aside from telling me what living here is like, what's a good amount of money to expect to bring with me? I know that right now you get nearly 2GPB per 1USD, and I don't expect it to get any better by next year.

Thanks.

You have the exchange rate backwards, 2 GBP for 1 USD would be fantastic. It is in fact 2 USD for 1 GBP so figure out how much money you spend in one month, double that, add 10% for charges in conversion, etc. and multiply that times how many months you plan to be there.

If you go to manchester you will need to learn how to drink until coma.
You should also google for "chav" and get used for brits underworld gang, as manchester is their capital.

1. Wrong, it's 2 USD per 1GBP.

2. Don't ask britfags about their country. We're a self-loathing bunch.

The first statement was a general rule, the second was my personal observation. What's the problem?

Not including accommodation you'll need around £40 a week to get by as a student. That'll go up a lot if you're drinking alot, expect a good night out to cost £10+ if you're doing it like a student. £20+ if you're not.

You can get by on about £4 a day pretty comfortably for food if you're not overly fussy, unless eating out.

I'd budget about $500/month at least.

excluding accommodation costs.

Suppose to be a great student city.

OP here. Thanks for the information.

This is still surprisingly less than it cost me to live in Manhattan.

Why is that surprising? Manhattan is infamously expensive.

I don't believe you. How many pints can you get for 20 quid?

I felt like I tried being price saavy, but then again I'm also not factoring supply cost (lol art uni) into this.
