Anyone from /trv/ ever been to North Korea?
>> Anonymous
what the fuck do you think?

but, the pic is awesome
>> Anonymous
Yes, I'm sure lots of people have.
>> Anonymous
>>28245
is this supposed to mean "of course not, who the fuck goes there" in which case, well, not many but some do, or "of course they have" in which case, well, it's not really that obvious is it
>> Anonymous
Christian Amanpour has been there and it was awesome.
>> Anonymous
I'm doing a project on North Korea about their tourism business

Man, it's fucked up

But I would go if I had the chance
>> Anonymous
going to the dprk is easy, if your not sub-human americunt scum. us Europeans can just go to a embassy, get a visa and take a plane, though we do have to make a stopover in bejing.

Any country that piles propaganda into its name (“The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea,” LOL) has a superiority complex.

>>28264

Americans can go there easily too, they would love people from all over the world to see their shitty propaganda tour.

Americans need to know the truth that Martin Luther King Jr was the leader and a violent black militia that fought for equal rights and socialism, and after he was killed there was a massive genocide of black people and now there are only a few of them hiding in the mountains of West Virginia.

No you cant dipshit.

from the DPRKs website FAQ:
>6. I am a US citizen / I am a South Korean citizen, can I visit North Korea?

>Special protocols are in effect regarding US and South Korean nationals. Contact your local embassy for more information.

Suck it fags.
>> Anonymous
ahh north korea, is there any dictatorship that will not use euros? syria, iran, cuba, north korea, and the european union, perfect match.
>> Anonymous
>>28290
Actually in the DPRK travel section is says on some of the trips that people with US passports can go, but can only stay for about half the time of other people traveling, and they have to get extra checks or something too.
Japanese and South Koreans are banned though.
>> Anonymous
I'm actually considering going on the August trip, would have prefered the September but it would cut into term time. Any anon been there/thinking of going?
>> Anonymous

>>28294
Does that mean they’ll start printing super-euros?
>> Anonymous

I'm read in a couple of sites that South Koreans aren't banned, and most of the tourists who go to North Korea are either Chinese or South Korean.

Lots of countries switched from dollar to Euro, democratic as well as autocratic ones. We make deals with dictatorships and so does your country. No reason to get all butthurt and hypocritic. You're just kinda not important enough anymore that we care about which countries you label "evil".
>> Anonymous
>>28321
Yeah. North Korea has also deemed an area something of a "national park" near the border that South Koreans can visit with some (much not much) ease.

I've heard really good things about Koryo Tours, operated by the guys that made A State of Mind, Game of their Lives, and Crossing the Line, and definitely intend to make the trip over with them.
>> Anonymous
I hear their roads have no cars.
>> Anonymous

>>28518
Yeah. They still have traffic cops though.
>> Anonymous
I don't know why anyone would use this as a selling point for Other Countries > US rant.

Regardless of whether or not you can just run over to NK or whether you can't, who cares? Why would you want to go to a place where you're likely being bugged and could disappear without a trace?
>> Anonymous
>>28529
They can't just abduct U.S. tourists willy-nilly. That would start a war.

South Koreans and Japanese, on the other hand...
>> Anonymous
why would i ever want to go there?

Yeah, that's what the government does any time an American gets abducted in Iran, Central/South America...

was there as a green artillery lieutenant and now i'm the oldest guy on 4chan. i was a great place in '51, farmers, farmer's daughters and moonshine
>> Anonymous
>>28604

I'm pretty sure it was just a PR stunt designed as a profile-booster.

To get noticed, orchestras today will do nearly everything except produce recordings.
>> Anonymous
They are still at war with South Korea lol (although no military actions currently take place xD)
>> Anonymous
>>28796
theres is military actions currently take place .

April 1996: Several hundred North Korean armed troops entered the Joint Security Area and elsewhere on three occasions in violation of the Korean armistice agreement.
July 1997: Fourteen North Korean soldiers crossed the military demarcation line, causing a 23-minute exchange of heavy gunfire.

this happens ever now and again.

A takeover of a US embassy and holding 55 diplomats prisoner vs a lone adventurer deliberately traveling somewhere he is explicitly warned against visiting, and then getting into trouble with the local government?

Yeah those are pretty much identical situations. Good catch.

Taking a guided tour in 2009.

Anyone who seriously does want to go to North Korea, the only way is to take a highly restricted guided tour.

Here's where I'm probably booking:

The best thing about going to North Korea is because it'll be like travelling through time. "Look kids! We're in the middle of the Cold War!"

Great topic. I find North Korea fascinating.

Here's a tour group for DPRK: http://www.koryogroup.com/

And, noisefags, I heartily recommend Juche from Tesco-Distro : http://store.tesco-distro.com/cgi-bin/shopper.cgi?preadd=action&key=CDXXJUCHE

Reason to go is because its the last bastion of communism which still doesnt bow and take it in the arse from every other country,

Sure they starve and all but thats how they roll.

I remember seeing a webpage of some Russian guy who took a tour around NK. I wish I could find the link, it was really interesting.
>> Anonymous
>>28956

Here it is:

http://www.tema.ru/travel/north-korea-1/

He took pictures of all the stuff you're not supposed to see. The most striking to me was the shantytowns right next to the Soviet-era skyscrapers.

>>28960

Is N. Korea always foggy?

I read one in English that was pretty interesting. At one point he went to a karaoke and watch gooks sing Ebony and Ivory.

He also picked up a book in a library he wasn't supposed to see, it said America wiped out all the black people and MLK was the leader of a socialist militia.

Soldier of fortune offers a $5 million dollar reward for anyone who can steal the flag off of the world's largest flag pole - which is in NK's propaganda city just next to the DMZ.

Of course, the flag is so big you'd need a semi to move it. Also you still have to get across the mine field and not die to insane NK troops.

Yeah, really. The whole nation is like an exercise of "Let's see how long we can make this Soviet-era shit last," whether it's power grids, buildings, vehicles, trains, or factories.
>> Anonymous
So how many organisations are there that organisise trips to NK, and which is the best?

Anyone saw the special on CNN?
>> Anonymous
>>29507
proud to say that I am going to north Korea in September with Koryo tours (unfortunatly the only way to visit NK is tour group style) under the name of "US tour 4" Its surprisingly easy to visit you just have to subject yourself to a bit of red tape from both the Chinese and North Koreans. I AM SO PUMPED

its also surprisingly cheap to gain access to such a reclusive hermit kingdom

Is it still relatively safe to visit North Korea at the moment? Because I read that there was the threat of famine and starvation in the country possible with the current world food problems.

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/asia/article3941541.ece
>> Anonymous
>>29716

They've been starving for decades, they're having a famine, its getting worse and worse. They don't let you go anywhere but where the tour guides take you, you won't see any starving people.
>> Anonymous
>>28308

Japs arent banned, I've seen pics of Japanese group tours in NK. Also somebody in this thread said NK and the South are still officially at war, no, not since a couple months ago, watch the fucking news, god.
>> Anonymous
>>29738
They are still at war, the armistice wasn't ever changed. Yeah Pres Kim was down here in November, but it was just talks. If you go to the border, they still point their guns at you.
>> chocolaterain !idkFAG3w5.
south korea is awesome

last year I came pretty close to N. Korea. I was backpacking through korea and made a stop at the DMZ near the boarder. Got to check out the conference room and tunnels and bridge of no return...etc.

Fact: N. Korea has the world's tallest flag pole and biggest flag near the DMZ, built to demonstrate the awsome powah of communism
>> Male Tsundere
>>29772

It'd be funny if South Korea built a bigger one to relatiate, and then North Korea would have to one up them again, and this flag size contest going on all these years would produce these comically huge flags on both sides of the border.
