So guise, I've decided that I wanna spend a couple of months bumming around europe either late this year or early next.

I've done a little research and came up with about five and a half grand for a two month stay. All of that taking into account rail passes, plane tickets, hostels(about 35 a night), foods(about 20 a day, I dont eat much.) All of these prices are in USD by the way.

So, any input? Am I miscalculating the amount of money I'll need in any way?(too much? not enough?) I'm asking here cause I assume SOMEONE has to have done the backpacking thing and could have some thing to say.

35 a night? DOLLARS?

Seconded. Way undercalculating the cost of a hostel.

I paid €15 for a night in a hostel in Metz, France. How much is that in dollars?

About 23 bucks.

Note to OP: Account for inflation. Way things are going, hell, we might just be at $2 a euro.

you also need to account for the many euroniggers that will take your money.

When making my estimates I just already did the math at $2 to a euro. The dollar's plummeting and I'll probably be there if not further by January next year.

Checking out prices online and asking around, $35 seems a pretty good estimate to me.

why pay to stay in a shitty hotel
first time I did this I was sketched out, but the people in the couchsurfing community are not from 4chan so they wont rape you too hard

I just did a short backpacking trip through Ireland and Scotland (Student in Norway) and there is no way you are going to find a hostel for 35 a night. I looked. A lot.

As for scandinavia, HAH! Think again, though I dunno if you're planning on tripping up here. It's so god damn expensive. No joke.

My advice: Do the couchsurfing thing. I looked into it, and almost did it, though my travel buddy (A girl, I think this had some bearing on her feelings about it) was not digging that at all. I think she was afraid we were going to get raped or something.

The rail passes are kind of a good deal in anywhere but scandinavia. Check out cheap flights if you're going considerable distances. There's Aer Lingus which I highly recommend, and RyanAir, which I don't really recommend but it's cheap flights. They really pack you in though. Crowded flights. Kinda shitty, but it works.

20 bucks a day will probably suffice given that you get the majority of your food at a grocery store and cook it in the hostel, which I highly recommend.

I dunno if you took this into account but you also gotta figure out how much for whatever attractions you're gonna check out. Some of 'em ain't cheap.

Long story short: Avoid scandinavia unless you're ready to shell out some big bucks, shop at grocery stores, and look into CouchSurfing. You'll make a friend, and they'll usually be able to show you "The REAL ________". Plus it's a read adventure.

Well, If I was paying in dollars I'd avoid any country who'se currency isn't tied to the dollar. Europe is damn expensive for americans right now.

how much did you pay for her? did you buy it there or did they ship it to your country?

$1000 a month, which is like $33 a night so it's cool. I went there and picked her personally.

Hitchhiking and sleeping with one-night stands are a cheap way to discover Scandinavia, though.
