Frenchfag here. I'm about to learn english language and civilization at college. I'm also thinking about leaving my country and finally ask for US citizenship.

Should I do it ? Please convince me.
>> Anonymous
Stay in France, monsieur.
>> Anonymous
>>22905
It will take you about 20 years to get citizenship. 5 years of living there before you can apply, and 15 years waiting for the application to go through. I am not making this up, it actually takes that long.
You seem to speak English well enough to just go now so if you *really* want to leave France for the USA (lol) your main obstacle would be getting a work visa...

Biggest mistake that you will ever make in your life.

Can you make a list of things that are better in the US than in France ?

Pros:

The Euro is fuckwin strong against the loldollar right now, so if you have a goodly amount of monies saved up you'll get a very decent exchange if you decide to come over. Also, as a foreigner you'll attract women like free tibet protests to rabid chinese nationalists.

If you ever plan on having children without being rich you should stay in France. American schools are complete shit and the NCLB only makes the education of the poor/middle class even shittier.

If you plan on being somewhat well off, come on over.

It depends on the muslims.

Sunnis from Lebanon and North Africa are generally decent people. Saudi sunnis are hard to find outside of Saudi Arabia.

If you find yourself surrounded by Shia muslims, kill yourself.

HERE WE FUCKING GO. EVERY GOD DAMN DAY.
>> Anonymous
1. We do not have riots over wearing religious symbols in public.
2. Our transportation is actually on time unlike in nearly ever European country (except for Germany and Switzerland).
3. Many chicks and guys are attracted to foreigners.
4. If I remember correctly we have lower property prices.
5. Lower prices for groceries and other basics.
6. Unless you are in New York or some other major place you don't have to deal with tourists.
7. We have such a big country that you can pick the climate that you want to live in.
>> Anonymous
You'll need to shower more than once per week. Are you sure you're ready for that?

I suppose it depends on your educational qualifications. If your English is fluent and you have a degree equivalent to a Bachelor's and above, you'll be doing quite well for yourself. If you have no college experience, prepare for a real pain in the ass.

Stay away from New York City, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, and possibly Boston, and definitely Atlanta.

niggers....the niggers are whats wrong with atlanta
>> Anonymous
>>23158

Atlanta's trying to hard to build itself up into the next "major American city," a la New York or Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the city's solution to this basically amounts to little more than rapid urban sprawl and placing a strip mall or seedy apartment complex on every patch of green they can get their mitts on. Of course, as soon as they build something, they neglect it and let it go to ruin, resulting in 3/4 of the city and the surrounding counties looking like a hollowed-out husk and crime rate going through the fucking roof.

Oh, and the roads. Georgia's Department of Transportation is the most inept collection of fucking retards this planet has ever seen, and it shows in just how fucking poorly our roads are laid out and maintained.

Seriously, just stay the fuck away from Atlanta. Everyone I know is already trying to get away as fast as they can.

They also did when 5francs=1dollar and it was .8 euro to the dollar.

French are cool, they're nice and polite unlike the stereotype, the British and the Germans are the most annoying tourists.

BTW if you're in downtown New York and you want to find where the World Trade Center was don't smile when you ask where it is.

Maybe its just our different locations, but I worked the front desk of a major resort in the Florida Keys for 2 years. Heres a couple of observations I found interesting:

- Germans were the #1 most common tourist I ever saw, and they were awesome. They all spoke fluent English, were polite and respectful, and wouldn't throw a fucking hissyfit at the drop of a dime.

- American Cubans were the biggest pieces of shit to deal with. Kind of like the "New Money" demographic in Russia except they're loud, aggressive assholes who can't speak a word of English to save their life. I always laughed when they would have their young children (6-8 years old) ask about room rates in English and translate for them.

- Most Brits I saw were stuck up old people, but for the most part were pretty decent to deal with.

- Sorry OP, but the French were #2 on my asshole list. But I didn't see too many, so the sample size is kinda small.

I visited some French friends in Italy back in February. They've all lived in or visited the U.S. The vast majority of them (All but one) preferred France/Italy.

Then again, their choices were made based on age (16-19). If you're used to getting into nightclubs, getting cigarettes/alcohol without trouble, smoking weed in public with no problem, ect., prepare for disappointment. If you'd like to drive, that's the only positive benefit.
However if you're able to move internationally at will, you're probably over 21.

Either way, it's probably going to be a disappointment. America isn't as bad as the Americans on here will make it seem, but it's a step down from Western Europe. Prepare for irritating Christians (There exists a higher proportion of Christians in American than Jews in Israel, for a reference), more conservative moral values, racism, widespread and blatant homophobia and a more widespread but less contemptuous Islamophobia as compared to France. Drugs are a big deal here, even pot. Also if you're poor/uneducated, you'll be more fucked over here than you would be in France.
But otherwise, it's not so bad. Just some aspects will be mildly annoying.

>>24115
And since Cubans are only applicable in Florida, looks like French is bumped to number one.

Question: What are you studying? Jobs like engineering, doctors, and other technical fields pay far better than in France. If you are getting something else, it may or may not be better than France, but in general you'll get more money if you are educated in America than elseware.

After that issue, you need to plan ahead for citizenship. You'll want to get a visa. Easiest one to get is the student visa. So if you want, go get your master's degree in America and then get a job. You can also get a work Visa from an American company. It's harder to get though. Finally, you can always do the visa lottery. Since Europe is usually underrepresented, you'll have a better shot than most.

Finally, you should visit an area you would like to live as well. Get rid of the stereotypes and find out what it is really like.

Also, for citzenship, it will take a while, but after your visa, you can apply to be a permanment resident, which is almost the same(don't commit a crime and you won't get kicked out).

I beg to differ.

>Prepare for irritating Christians (There exists a higher proportion of Christians in American than Jews in Israel, for a reference), more conservative moral values, racism, widespread and blatant homophobia and a more widespread but less contemptuous Islamophobia as compared to France.

Stereotypes much? I'm sorry but I live in RURAL USA and I rarely run into bible-thumpers; and most of us hate idiots that have to end every sentance with Jesus too. The only places where such things are likely to be wide-spread are the deep, deep, deep south waaay out in the sticks. Places no European is likely to want to go like Arkansas, Alabama, and so forth. It's a BIG country though. If you don't want to meet any of those people go to NYC, LA, Seattle or San Fran. ie. liberal enclaves. Those people want to be European so bad it hurts.

>Drugs are a big deal here, even pot. Also if you're poor/uneducated, you'll be more fucked over here than you would be in France.

If you smoke pot never have more on you then a very, very small amount. In many areas today it's gone down to violation if you have a joint or a roach. Hoarding the stuff is what will get you dealer status. Check with the local laws before you consider scoring some. Some places like California are pretty permissive about weed.

If you're French anywhere in New England (that's the six states east of New York), be prepared to be mistaken for a French-Canadian. Also, come to New Hampshire. It was good enough that Sarkozy vacationed here last summer and wants to come back.
