So I'll be in London and Cambridge for a few days in October with school. We're 22 people but we will get free time (mostly after dinner), so I'll have some time to check out stuff.
While I don't have any clue where I'll be in Cambridge (it's small anyway eh), Earl's Court is the place I'll be in London.

Any tips on bars, clubs, whatever? Maybe some good Jazz clubs or places with good music?
(I'm not in London for going to clubs, I can have that here too, but maybe this helps the others out.)

You can just take the tube from Earls Court station to wherever you want.

Earls court is a good place to set out for anywhere in London, its not far out and you're on one of the principle lines (Picadilly). Around west London you've got Notting Hill Arts club theres a nice Jazz cafe (though can't recall the name) around Portobello Market. Theres another good Jazz Cafe up in Camden (http://www.jazzcafe.co.uk/). Aside from that i'm not really sure. Use your google-fu, theres plenty of shit going on. Plus theres an alright pub opposite Earls Court tube (the big one) that serves London Pride, get a pint of that and grimmace at tasting a real brew and not some bubbly weak American pish! :P

Since I don't have much time on my hands there and just am a lazy fuck, I wanted to get some information on things in or close-on-foot to Earls Court. But yeah, you're totally right.

Thanks man! :]
And don't worry, beer in Germany isn't that bad either. Still I never tried out London Pride, I'll do that for sure! :P

Go to the East End and run around with your stupid American accent. Everyone will really love you and you'll have a great time! Also, make sure you pronounce it "Ley-sester Square" when you ask for directions.

Earls court is pretty crap for things to do, it's mainly yuppies nowadays. Was way better in the 80's, when full of junkies and faggots...and William S. Burroughs who seems to encompass both!

OP, if you go to Oxford Street find the bastard who stole my backpack with my camera in it and give him a good pounding.
