It's time for me to get out of the states and do some traveling. I'm thinking about Brazil for my first stop. I'm looking to see the sights, but mostly hit up some beaches and meet interesting people.

1. I haven't decided if I should go it alone, or bring a girl with me. If I go alone, are Brazilian women friendly and approachable? And into tall white dudes? I also have a couple girls that would probably be interested in going. One is an old friend who is now married, but has been wanting to run off with me... At least I would definitely be getting laid.

2. What areas should I look into? I don't mind spending a couple days in the larger cities, but mostly I'm interested in relaxing and meeting some cool people. I hear Florianopolis Island is nice.

3. What's the cost of living, rent, and travel down there? Can I live like a king with my US dollars for a month or two?

Amerifag here who lives in Brazil. Most people don't speak English so unless you speak some Portuguese you won't have great success picking up women.

The dollar has collapsed in case you haven't heard so it's not nearly as cheap as it was a few years ago.

Florianopolis is very nice but it is full of tall light skinned beautiful people. Your gringo appearance will be much more useful in the northeast of the country.

I probably won't be heading down there until we are in our winter season up here.. So perhaps I can learn some basic Brazilian Portuguese before I go.

Any other specific areas I should check out, or stay away from?

Brazilian here. Don't come here alone, if possibile bring someone who has travelled here before. Is kinda risky for outsiders but you should be okay if your with a guide. Florianópolis is beautiul, I thik you have better shots of getting laid there. In Bahia they'll think oyur calling them hookers.Where ever you go, don't go to Sao Paolo. That place is a war zone for the past three years.

Agreed. Do not go to Sao Paulo, but not because it is dangerous. Rio is more dangerous. Don't go to Sao Paulo because it is ugly and filthy. Also strange a Brazilian can't spell the name of Brazil's largest city...

What about Salvador?

I also understand southern Brazil has a fair amount of Germans. I speak some German so that may be a plus.

The only people that speak German will be 80 years old.
