Livnig in London Anonymous
amerifag here interested in living in london after graduation. how will i fair with a computer science engineering degree? im also contemplating grad school, if possible in england. not so much interested in citizenship, i just wanna live for a couple of years. is there anything i should know?

job market for engineers, living cost (sky high, i know), getting into grad school...

how would it compare to san francisco? (my other option)

im eastern european, but have lived in california for most of my life and have US citizenship.

move to sf, way better than britian...

>im eastern european
Did you keep the citizenship from the motherland?

Yeah if you've got EU citizenship that makes everything much easier.
Computer Engineering, shouldn't be a problem getting a half decent job with a starting salary of about £19k. You'll be pleased to know that your Polak cousins have already laid the ground work here, so you won't feel too out of place.

Both suck, America is good for low taxes and stuff but San Fran is filled with earthquakes, fags, and all the abominations of the world. London is a nanny police state so I wouldn't want to live there at all.

I'd personally rather go with San Fran because its the lesser of two evils but isn't there some other place in Cali you'd want to live in? Also weather in Cali is way better than in Britain, unless your idea of good weather is fog and rain, in that case London is better.

I'm not sure about job markets, trends are generally down everywhere.

i have dual citizenship, Croatian and US
>>73015
what kind of life can 19k get in london?
>>73021
i live near sf, so i know what its like there. personally, i hate all of cali except sf. too much fuckin sprawl and i cant get anywhere without a car.

london is hardly a police state, at least our government doesnt spy on us (coughNSAcough)

>>73021
Do we really need this in every thread? I mean, some anon telling the OP where to live based on their personal preferences which are completely irrelevant to the question at hand?

Until the mods step up and enforce the general board rules, this is what we have to deal with.

pretty low like renting a room outside city centre, and moving everywhere by underground. basically cars are too expensive for everyone so don't be surpised by seeing your GM travelling with you in the tube. but still it's good city for enterpreuters.
But standard of life that you can afford from normal wage is miserable. Once i heard some nice and pretty accurate comment about london, 'it's cold, expensive and miserable' how it's over here.

you can have good times on a £19k salary, just don't expect to save anything.

>>73025
Whut? Have you ever visited London? Let alone the UK?

>>73042
Those cameras aren't for spying on us! they're for our own protection and the protection of property. I haven't done anything wrong so i haven't got anything to fear. Silly.

Just go for SF then wait until Croatia joins the EU and try London out.

If you move to London before the fifth of november, you'll witness operation blackeye, where anon will spray all the cctv cameras it can find.

The EU won't be accepting new members until the treaty of Lisbon is ratified. That may be a while. I wouldn't make any plans with the idea that Croatia's bid for the EU is going to be available for acceptance any time soon.

>>durrr hurrrr muslims lol

Yeah, better watch out for them muslims. At a whopping 8% of the population, they're taking over London! Its only a matter of time before Sharia law governs the city!
>> Anonymous
>>73257

This is a moronic statement. Sure, Muslims make up 8% of the population now. But how much did they make up 20 years ago? And then, extrapolating that, how much will they make up 20 years FROM now?
>> Anonymous
>>73265
Who gives a shit? Why are you dickwads so afraid of Muslims?
>> Anonymous
>>73266

Nothing to do with being afraid. I just happen to live here, and I'm glad that the country is fairly developed intellectually (yeah, aside from chavs etc.).

It's a shame if it gets overrun by a bunch of irrational zealots who cling onto a ridiculous, mediaeval belief system that denigrates women. It's stupid.

I'm not nationalistic at all. But this country, like many others, has gone through the renaissance and the enlightenment. When I see a woman walking around in full burkha, I see it as a drastic step backwards. At least Christians have morphed their beliefs and practices somewhat for modern European countries.

TL;DR: No backward-ass, insulting, irrational religious bullshit here please. Change yourself or don't come here, otherwise loads of us will get tired and leave.

You think 8% is bad? Try living in Michigan. Bet you didn't know that right here, zip code 48125, there is the highest population of Muslims, Arabs, Middle Easterns, outside of... well their native land Yeah, it's like blacks in Mississippi.
>> Anonymous
>>73257

Hey , i live here too dipshit. In fact i live with 2 muslims , and they are the best neighbours you could ask for. London has a proud history of welcoming newcomers. If you dont like it , fuck off.

You don't see the obvious sarcasm in this: "Yeah, better watch out for them muslims. At a whopping 8% of the population, they're taking over London! Its only a matter of time before Sharia law governs the city!", preceded by a "hurr durr"? Idiot.

As someone who moved from Hong Kong to London. I can tell you that DO NOT FUCKING COME HERE. OVERPRICED CITY IS FUCKING OVERPRICED.
It feels like moving from a first world country to a second world country. Next step down is if you move to nigeria.

Oh god. Seriously, why is london so filled with Hurrr durrr idiots? I was watching that "Why americans are stupid" video and when it came to the guy who said that he disagrees with the war in iraq but will back it because America is his country, he didn't strike me as stupid but MANLY LOYALTY IN THE SHAPE OF MAN.
