If you're traveling to Chicago, be sure to hit the South Side. Take the Red Line south and be sure to get off at Cermak-Chinatown for some of the best food Chicago has to offer, as well as the most junk shops per person.

Also on the south side is the University of Chicago. You've got gothic, Oxford inspired architecture, the Rockefeller chapel, the Robie house, the site of the first nuclear reaction, and the most nerds per person in America.

If you end up in Chitown, make sure to stop off at Giordanno's for pizza, and Hot Diggity Dawg for hot dogs/vienna sausages/polish/bratwurst. They are SO fucking delicious.

Be sure to prep for the winters if you're not used to them. You're going to need an honest to god winter coat, hat, scarf, gloves, boots...layers are good.

Winter, however, is the best time to visit the Lincoln Park Zoo. It's free and open almost every day. In the winter, the only regulars are homeless people. But even better, the big cats are highly active. My friends went in February and watched a tiger stalk, kill, and eat a squirrel.

Good food. When I lived there, there was a LOT of Jews and Indians. Is there still a ton of them? It was the only place where A South Korean, a Japanese, a Filipino, a Chinese, a Thai, and an Indian guy can sit together and eat without saying a single thing about their race.

Deep dish pizza and Chicago-style hot dogs are a must. You can get some great food right there on the Magnificent Mile.

I always wanted to go to the Tip Top Tap, only to find out that it doesn't exist.

The Allerton's a cool building, though.

Chicago is one of the more racially diverse cities. They used to test a lot of movies and plays in Chicago because you were guaranteed to get a good slice of America.

It's predominantly white and black, though, with Illinois' usual large Hispanic population as well.

As a guy from Ohio, I felt much safer in Chicago than I ever did in Cleveland.

Toronto would like a world with you. And London. Multicultural cities are pretty cool.

Agree with the OP. I've been there twice and I'm just in love with it. I'm saving up some money to go there on a school function-type thing. (Art school. gonna go check out galleries and stuff.) I'm REALLY excited.

The Art Institute is gorgeous. And definitely check out the Museum of Modern Art.

Although my favorite is still the Field Museum and the Lions of Tsavo.

Cities are fucking ugly. Vast untouched landscapes FTW.

Both are good. I think one needs a healthy balance of the other. It's hard to find VAST untouched landscape in the U.S., outside of the West, though.

I live in Chicago and it's a great place...as long as if you don't come during the winter (-18 windchill) and during the summer (95, very humid) spring and fall are the best times to come. Don't forget to stop by the millennium park where sometimes one can get free concerts. Navy Pear for lounging around. The Chicago botanical garden if your into nature and stuff; and a lot of good architecture.
