I live in North Carolina and I've got a friend thats coming to visit from Melbourne for about a month mid August.
Being that I live here I believe that there is nothing to do here and that nothing is interesting.
What are some things/places I could take my friend?
I live near the NC Zoo and have already taken her there. What else is there that would entertain some one?

Tldr: Whats to do in NC?

Take her to a range and go shooting, Australians have extremely limited gun rights, going to the range to shoot assault rifles and Glocks would be a unique experience.

You could find out what bands are playing in Charlotte or Asheville and take her to a show. I live outside Charlotte, but you're right the whole state is fucking dead. Uhhhhm shopping? Girls like shopping, right? Especially in foreign countries. Take her out to dinner somewhere interesting, like a historic or super-hip restaurant, doesn't have to be too expensive. Check out citysearch; I dunno where the NC Zoo is.

I take mine back, listen to this man. MUCH better idea; guns are fun.

Also, don't forget your position. NC isn't stunning compared to Australia. I think if you worry about what to show her, you'll both be disappointed. Show up at places with things to do, don't go to places to find things to do. The coast will suck to her. Apart from being different, the wildlife will be small and unimpressive. The city will most likely be small.

Take her places, but don't rely on your location.

The Zoo is almost smack dab in the middle of the state. 15ish minutes from Highpoint, 30ish from Greensboro.
I was thinking of taking her to the mountains, maybe blowing rock or that big ass swinging bridge.
I was in Melbourne myself last November and I still think the NC coast will still have some value. They aren't really the same.

You are all delusional. There is nothing to see in North Carolina besides trees.

On that note though, why not take her camping? August weather is perfect hiking weather, and she might be interested in that sort of thing.
