Okay /trv/, pretty soon I'm going to be qualified as both a teacher of English as a Second Language but also a UK state primary school teacher. The thing is, I've always had itchy feet and quite frankly can't wait to go somewhere else to live and work.

Where should I go? Ideally, I'd like a country something like what I've described in the list below. I know I probably can't find one exactly like that, but anything close or any reccomendations would be helpful.

* A generally low level of bureaucracy, state interference and "nannying"
* A high level of social acceptance (absence of racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.)
* Either no state religion, or very low importance of religion in society
* ACTUAL SEASONS (hot in winter, cold in summer) but with no "holy shit I'm dying" extremes
* Relatively uncomplicated to gain citizenship if I want to stay
* Low level of state/police corruption
* Relatively low cost of housing/living

I don't mind if it's some country nobody has heard of, or if nobody speaks English there. The former might even be better, I'd like to live somewhere that isn't affiliated with any of the major power blocs. The latter is something I'll worry about once I've decided whether the place is right for me.

I also have a few very specific questions that only someone with my qualifications/nationality could really answer, so please let me know if you're someone like that and I'll ask them.

This isn't that easy to find outside of the English speaking world, you could try South America

The thought had occured to me, same with Thailand/Vietnam. I know they might not fulfil many of the other criteria (PARTICULARLY CORRUPTION) but they seem pretty accepting, especially since they have all those traps.

>>78807
>>78805

Why? I don't know much about these two.

>>78804

Seriously? I've heard many Americans say that Canada is way more open and less crazy than where they live, but I figured there have to be some caveats.

A country that matches all those criteria doesn't exist, OP. Enjoy living in Fantasy Land.

I said that in the OP post, anonymous. Enjoy not being able to read.

I take that back - just being a dick. You may want to look into Uruguay. It satisfies all of your conditions fairly well. What are your nationality specific questions?

I second this. It matches most criteria:

* A generally low level of bureaucracy, state interference and "nannying"

Check

* A high level of social acceptance (absence of racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.)

Semi-check, there's some racism, homophobia, etc. but in general it's frowned upon.

* Either no state religion, or very low importance of religion in society

We have an official religion and all, but there's almost no religious nuts or very religious people. Also, you can announce you're an atheist without fear of discrimination and such.

* ACTUAL SEASONS (hot in winter, cold in summer) but with no "holy shit I'm dying" extremes

Check. It does get pretty damn hot in summer, though.

* Relatively uncomplicated to gain citizenship if I want to stay

Fucking check. Everyone can get in here, and that's actually a bad thing, mind you.

* Low level of state/police corruption

Sorry, this is a big problem here.

* Relatively low cost of housing/living

RELATIVELY is the key. It's expensive for us, but not nearly as expensive as some first-world countries.

I live in Buenos Aires, btw.

Czech Republic fits most of those

I think Canada fails on:
* A generally low level of bureaucracy, state interference and "nannying"
* ACTUAL SEASONS (hot in winter, cold in summer) but with no "holy shit I'm dying" extremes

New Zealand seems to resonate a lot with what you're saying but upon cross-referencing it with your criteria I've realised you ARE living in fantasy land. Enjoy your Super Nanny.

nevermind they've had two economic melt-downs in less than 20 years(as in if the US pulled one of these the world would stop dead on its tracks).

Canada, Uruguay, Chile. I give up. Not even these three meet all those criteria.

Seriously OP, give up on the checklist and just go to wherever you like the feel of. It'll completely override all your bullshit criteria.

>>Australia

As an Australian I ROFLMAOOOOOOOO: we're the most overgoverned people on earth. Three tiers of government for 21 million people, and throw in as a bonus a highly statist-authoritarian political culture since the latter half of the 19th century.

The other criteria don't pose a prob, though

The government is big but services are also run fairly well usually. No use bitching about it. The US government is fucking wasteful literally beyond belief by comparison. The main reason we have 3-tier is because we can't go without it. Going only federal is a little dodgy because Western Australia's issues are quite different to Tasmania's. Potentially we could go without the local level but then that might add bulk to the state level.

If you want to have a winter, many parts of Australia are a bad choice. And our summers will sweat the shit out of you if your place doesn't have good air con (we have NONE, shit sucks)

Other than that a very reliable choice.
>> Anonymous
>>81461

The solution is obviously to have larger local councils combined with federal governance. Fuck the states. They're nothing but the old colonial governments who weren't abolished at Federation only because they knew how best to run their own bit of turf. A century later and they fundamentally cost more then they make or save in revenue/expenditure.
