sup /trv/, I think I'll go abroad next year. I can choose between:

- Japan
- England
- USA
- Canada

Which one should I choose? I am a germanfag but I can speak english and spanish very good. I barely know any japanese at all, though, and my french is only mediocre at best. In Japan, I would have my own room in the flat of a family friend, including food and most likely some activities in Tokyo. Also, I dislike the Southern State of America and California. Can you help this finicky /trv/ kvlt norsk chvrchbvrner out?

Canada, Toronto or Vancouver.
Avoid England by any cost possible

Well I would obviously choose Japan.. even if I'm not a weeaboo, it's just the kind of place that I think should be seen. Also, the activities and family friend's house sound great.. how long will you be staying there then? If it's a week then I'd choose England, but it sounds like you'll be spending more time in your destination than a week.

I'd go for Japan.

I agree that Japan would be cool, but I don't know if I would be able to stay there a year. England doesn't seem too much of a place I would visit, but definitely nice to spend a couple of days in. Pick a place where you have a good understanding of the language otherwise, it'd be just hell trying to communicate what you want or where to get it from.

I'd just bounce around from place to place, NYC, San Francisco, Quebec, etc. A year is a long time.

Is this for university or what?

Washington is a pretty cool place, I know that the German exchange student living with my friends likes it here better than his sister liked Kentucky.

Don't go to Japan if you don't speak Japanese, the experience is hideous.

Common mistake for a German, since there is no visible difference between adjectives and adverbs in German.

If you want to see a lot, a trip around the States might be nice. We have a lot of different kinds of areas, so you'll get more for your euro (which coincidentally is now worth more than the dollar, so things will be cheap).

Of course, if you hate Americans, go to Canada, they're nicer.

Dude not Japan, it is fun to visit but you don't want to be there for a long period of time. I would say USA or Canada i spent 3 months in both and it was some of the best time i had in my life

If you have SOMEONE ELSE that knows the language and you have a gigantic amount of money to spend, Japan would be good, but if you're going there with barely any real knowledge on it it will probably be a waste of money for the most part. Except for a few places near the US bases and business districts, no one speaks legible english.

US is too big, you need to be more specific. Given the choice though, the sights in US are more interesting than in Canada if your purpose is sightseeing.

Never been to England so I can't comment

That depends on what sort of things you want to be doing.

I live in England. Boring as fucking hell. Go to Ireland instead, if you choose to go the shitty climate route.

Well, if you're worried about not knowing french when travelling to Canada, don't. You need to speak english before graduating in Quebec, so everyone knows english.

Just wondering, but have you actually been to California, or have you just watched The OC? Because there's a little more to it than that, despite popular opinion.

True. I live there and I haven't seen so many white people in one place here ever.

Then again, they technically filmed in L.A.

Canada.

Quebec City specifically, and later Ottawa.

It's time for it. 400th anniversary of the city's founding.

I've been to england, boring as fuck...
i live in the usa, the south is ass-backwards and too religious for me, california is a joke, and the rest of it isn't much fun to look at...
Canada you don't really need to be that good at french, but otherwise you get alot of people who are really nationalistic and have funny accents...
I personally want to go to japan, but im a weeaboo so im biased. they have cool old architecture (architecture student) and as mentioned before i obviously like alot of their pop-culture stuff, and besides, if your going you'll have incentive to learn more japanese, and if u learn enough you can go on 2ch without failing. if you go to japan make sure u know kanji, alot of kanji...

If you know French it will go a long way in Quebec.

That said, you'll still get service in English, don't worry. It's the anglophone residents Quebec hates, not the tourists.

Oh and by the way, funny story: to land anywhere in Quebec you have to know French. The airport will not under any circumstances let you land unless you can talk to them, and they only speak in French.

I meant if you're a pilot.

It's the same as in France.

And oh, be warned: Quebec law is not the same as in the rest of Canada; their civil laws are based on the French ones.

Canada but don't come to Toronto. Theres nothing here that is really exciting. I'd say montreal or Quebec.
If your going anywhere outside of Quebec, French isn't even used.

If you were American, I'd say Japan. Canada is basically America except not as good. Never been to England, but the women are pretty ugly. I'd go for America, so long as you're sent to some place with civilization and not like Kansas, Wyoming, or some other shitty state.
