That's because like all primitive tribes, they still rely on oral tradition for educating their youngs (they have schools, but they don't use them for educational purposes, only for weird ritual homicides).
So nowadays, they listen to their grandparents' war memories. Which also explains why, while they only speak about WW2, they don't know what really happened. In 50 years, Americans will probably tell amused Europeans how they rid the world of the deadly threat of Saddam's WMDs.
