Hey /trv/, going to Spain soon. Will this setup work or will my DS explode/require converter?

if you're using electronics they usually come with their own adapters (the large black things at the plug end of the power cord, instead of just plain plugs) so all you need is a plug converter. (notice how small it is. it's basically just two metal plates inside conducting the electricity from its own prongs to the ones you insert into it.)
just don't use the converter with things like lamps or generally things that don't have their own adapters.

Just look it up on-line. If the UK uses the same voltage and frequency as Spain, yes you can. Wikipedia has this info.

Just one of those wouldn't work, the American DS charger only accepts up to 110 volts. You would need a step-down converter (unless what OP is suggesting would work).

thats an adapter not a converter

um.. right. i confuse the two terms sometimes. replace converter with adapter and adapter with converter in that post.

uh well.. we have 120 volts in america so.. wut?

and yes the voltage (230) and frequency (50 Hz) are the same in the UK and Spain, they just use different plugs.

looks like if you've charged your american ds with that charger in the uk, it should work just fine with just an adapter in spain.
this is my verdict. anyone care to challenge?

OP here, I guess what I'm really asking is if the UK charger will work with my DS. I have not tried it before. But it sounds like it will?

110, 120 same thing y'all nah meen

ok i take what i just said back.
my experience with chargers, converters, whatever, is that if you use them with just an adapter in europe (which i guess means that they convert the european 230 V to american 120 V) they work on their own and i dont have to get a separate converter.
i have no idea about using foreign converters. i've only used the ones that came with the electronics i was using. you'd be better off just using the one that came with your ds and getting an adapter for that.

yeah i guess its close nuff
even in europe its not 230 everywhere (although that's what it is in most places). it fluctuates a bit from country to country. sometimes itll be 220 and sometimes 240. but i guess it doesn't matter all that much in the end. particularly if you have a converter like that which comes with most electronics.

ok i've looked at the specs for the us, uk and european ds converters (or power supply cables as they're called) and it looks like they all take any kind of input (85-256V 50/60Hz) and all output 5.2V 450 mA to the ds. so no matter where you bought the ds and the power supply cable it should not fry your ds. provided that the plug that attaches to the ds fits, i think you're good.

Thanks man, sounds good. Where'd you get that info btw?

Thanks everybody for the help.

US power supply in Europe = NO (only rated for US voltage)
UK power supply in Europe = YES (with appropriate plug adapters)

you mean this?

>This AC Adapter will only work with the Nintendo DS Lite. It will not work with the original style Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance SP or any other Game Boy system.

that has nothing to do with what we were talking about here.
that website doesn't have any specific information about the ds power supply.

to OP: to be on the safe side just read the back of the power supply you've got and make sure that the info for the OUTPUT matches: 5.2V 450 mA

If I bought a Japanese DS, could I charge it using a UK charger?
>> Anonymous
>>30148
seeing as japan and america use the same voltages and plugs i suspect that if you can use an american ds with a british charger then you can also use a japanese ds with a british charger

japan no rike having ground?

they probably just have it as a male coming from the outlet, same as europe.
