I am going to visit an old friend I know who moved to San Antonio, Texas in a few days here. I was wondering, what are some good places to go in the town? I am not really interested in site seeing, but shopping and general hang-outs. Any good suggestions?

Thanks.

I was there for a few months thanks to the air force.

Honestly, I enjoyed my time there. The alamo is obviously one of those "must see" tourist spots, but I'd highly recommend the riverwalk (a mall with a venice canal-esque body of water running through it).

the city in general was actually fairly nice from what i recal, but i avoided the seedier areas.

That skyneedle restaurant actually has some good food. I like to go there around sundown and watch the city lights turn on. I recommend the pork steak with the apple/onion glaze. It's damn good.

The Riverwalk is a must. If you've got time to kill (about an hour), go on a boat tour of the Riverwalk. you learn a lot about the city of San Antonio, the architecture, history, and other such fun things. Last time I was there (July) it was about 7 bucks for an adult.

Here's some moar resources about the Riverwalk for you.

Alamo,Riverwalk,Rivercenter mall,Tower of the Americas....etc...
It's a good city as long as you don't get stuck downtown(residential areas) after dark. Lots of SCARY GUIEZ like to hang out after dark here.

Take it from me a San Antoniofag. Born and raised here.

You can also visit the Witte Museum and the SAMA (San Antonio Art Museum). The Witte has this exhibit going on right now: http://www.ourbodytheuniversewithin.com/

Oh, and for restaurants and other shit like that check out this site: http://www.sacurrent.com/

If you want to get straight to it then just go here: http://www.sacurrent.com/bestof/

The riverwalk is nice, but it's so fucking expensive if you want to eat there, but the rainforest cafe is pretty nice.
