Hi /trv/

I'm headed round the world at the end of the year, and during my travels I'll be spending a night in Reykjavik. I'm only in town for about 24 hours, and I was wondering what's worth seeing.

I've heard about the Hallgrímskirkja which is meant to be pretty impressive, and the natural spas. What else is there? Also, what's the likelihood of the Aurora Borealis being visible while I'm there?

Since you are only going to be around for a day, I would recommend simply going to the Blue Lagoon if you want to try out a natural spa/hot spring, Hallgrímskirkja is overrated to be honest, if you want to get a good view over the city, go to Perlan. It's the glass dome building on top of the four tanks on the hill. Spectacular view there, much better than from Hallgrímskirkja. The church itself isn't really very interesting either.

As for seeing the Aurora, depends on when you are going, but I would put your chances of seeing it as rather low. Don't see it from the city all that much, and usually only during the coldest months, November-February I believe.

I have heard that your chances of seeing it are higher if you go outside the city, but I have no idea if that is right or not.
