Make sure you have good travel insurance should the economic situation get worse over there. I was reading that last weekend the food retailers couldn't import any new stock because they weren't able to get credit.

Make sure you don't get fucked over by the currency.

The economy is the worst in Europe right now and the government is almost bankrupt. I guess you should be prapered for economic collapse. Bring dollars or Euros just in case.

In agreement with the Anon who suggested travel insurance. If you're going self catered, buy food at a store called Kronan. It's the cheapest and unlike many of the supermarkets, they seem to be having little trouble importing stuff. Also, be prepared for expensive gas prices. Cab fares are also rather expensive (much like most things in Iceland).

Try taking the Golden Circle tour if you have the spare cash to throw around and aren't going there with friends or visiting friends who live there who might have a car. The Blue Lagoon hot spring is fun for a while, but a little overrated.

That said and done with though, the night life is great and the atmosphere in most bars in downtown Reykjavik is friendly and lively. There's alot of great natural landscape to take in at places like þingvellir, Gullfoss and the glaciers dotted about the island.

Oh, and hopefully you'll catch the norther lights, they've been out since it started to get cold!

It's an online icelandic course put out by the University of Iceland.

Given the current trend of Iceland's economy and currency you'll find yourself able to buy half the country soon.

I heard that small countries like Iceland have only a few ports out of their countries creating easy bottlenecks if there is traffic. Obviously because of tubes and pipes that go under the oceans

Don't bank with them.

listen to Sigur Ros! Gorgeous music... probably Iceland's most popular band... listening to them while in Iceland would be a treat.

do they pay foreigners salary with euros ?

Seconded. I loved the Blue Lagoon and did the Golden Circle tour. The tour cost like 100 euros (iirc) and the Blue Lagoon is relatively inexpensive for Iceland.

But remember that Iceland is FUCKING EXPENSIVE. Bring food with you, if you can.
