Hello there /trv/,

Well I'm heading over to NYC saturday and I'm wondering if you guys know of any cool places to visit.

in b4 every shitty tourist site that everyone visits but there really isn't anything interesting about them. (empire state building, statue of liberty, ground 0)

So far I'm only interested in seeing where John Lennon was shot, maybe where Heath Ledger died, central park, and that's about all that's caught my intention.

give me some rare shops, good book stores, or just something you think would be interesting.

Since you're obviously an uptight toolbag with self esteem issues, I suggest going to the Strand so you can feel like a fake real New Yorker. Buy a random brand new book because you can't find the one you came for. Michelle whatserfuck from Heath Ledger used to go there or something. For added douche points, buy a strand book bag or t-shirt and wear it everywhere so people will understand that (a) you know how to read, unlike most people, and (b) you went to this cool "underground" book store in the village that nobody knows about except every fucking person in the world.

Afterwards go to Ground Zero. You know you want to. Tourist.

New York is fun.

I have kind of the same thing. I'm going for a few days in the fall. The only thing I'm concerned about is being able to take the subway. It just looks so damn confusing.

The Frick Collection, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, The Cloisters, The Met

Wander around. Go into places that look interesting.

Seriously, why do people never do this? It's more fun than squeezing yourself into some tourist attraction.

i live in NY and love wandering around, there's always something new, even treading 'round SOHO, or walking uptown from 42nd to maybe the 90th sts. near central park, f.a.o. schwartz, st. marks in the village. Battery park (not the site of twin towers, but the area just beyond it.) i can't stomach those fags selling 911 tshirts there. there's a lot of hidden stuff around the city,
and a lot of it is open, even the fucken' disney store has some cool architecture in it.

I went to NYC for the weekend a couple weeks ago and i think the thing I loved the most was that night city tour that went through the village, little italy, Chinatown and brooklyn. Its mainly a tourist ride but it was fucking awesome to see the city at night and the guide was pretty funny. Once you have a basic knowledge of the city you can wander randomly in the street as the other anons said.

never bother with the tours , a good duide book and a subway map are more than enougth to gt a feel for the city. A good way to get a free look at the harbour is simply to take a ride on the staten island ferry which will take you past governers island and the statue of liberty. As you can no longer go up the statue its not actually worth going over to the island itself. another cool thing to do i simply to hang out in union square , there always seems to be a carnival going on there most nights. As for the "touristy" strand bookstore , i have always found it a great place to pick up reading materail whilst passing through the city , but be on your toes , there are good second hand bookstores all over the city

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA FUCK YOU! NO!

There's a restaurant in Manhattan called "Ninja". Where "ninjas" serve you Japanese food,do ninja magic tricks and all that good stuff. They even take it as far as to never let you see them moving around the restaurant. They have secret passages and all that cool shit.

You need to go there OP.

There's a small store hidden around Soho somewhere called "Evolution" that's full of animal skulls and pelts and lots of other really out-there shit.

I never bought anything from there, but man was it cool to look around.

I just got back from NY. The best thing for me was the feeling of how enormous the place is, rather than a single location or experience. Move around and see every area.

Things that are annoying in new york.

1. Walking Several City blocks to find a public rest room.

2. It's easy to get lost, make sure you have enough money for a cab to get back from wherever your going
.
3. Times Square/Manhattan can be horrendously expensive even for little things(TGI fridays there charges 20 dollars a cheeseburger, the beer is actually cheaper then the food).

4. Guidebooks still suck. There is always some construction, or delay or some bullshit that makes it confusing to ride the subway(especially at night).

5. No on in that goddamn town has heard of a fucking elevator.

6. OP is a fag
