So no one down my street speaks English anymore and I live in England. It's time to move. I've been looking at Tasmania, Australia. My occupation is in demand in Australia so hopefully I won't have a hard time finding a job.

Could any Australians tell me what it is like to actually live in Tasmania?

Instead of cutting and running to Australia like a gigantic pussy, why don't you stay and fight it out by voting for the BNP?

Why Tasmania of all places? I've never been there but it's supposedly really, really cold. And it's pretty damn isolated. Try a major city? Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, even Perth. Brisbane is red-neck city, Melbourne is culture central (great food/entertainment), Perth is a ghost town and there are thousands of job opportunities in Sydney.

do you enjoy having sex with your relatives? if so then Tasmania is the perfect place for you.

Tasmania is the butt of pretty much all of the jokes in Australia. If you can deal with that then you'll be fine.

As for living in Tassie, it's a lot like New Zealand. Beautiful wilderness, temperate climate, fuck all people. However if you don't like bushwalking/hiking then you'll get bored quickly.

Also, Tasmania's population is actually decreasing so you might not have an easy time finding a job down there.

If you want zero problems getting a job then move to Brisbane or Perth, they are the boom cities.

I love hiking! I'm looking for somewhere rural but still in the western world and Tasmania seems like a decent enough place. Finding a job could be tricky but I have about a years expenses so I can always travel over to NZ or Perth to find a job.

Are you trying to avoid the eastern seaboard for some reason? Not to judge you but imo if you're coming out here for the first time and are looking for a job then you're going about it the hard way.

Tassie is nice but you might have trouble finding a job there and Perth is one of, if not the most, geographically isolated cities in the world. ie: If you don't have any luck there then you're fucked.

Stick to the Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane corridor at first. If you move to one of these cities and can't find work or you don't like living there then it's easy to move to another city. (This is especially true in QLD, there are cities growing everywhere and they're all in need of skilled labour).

You live in a terrible country with so many things wrong with it, and the only thing you can find to complain about is your own xenophobia?

Good riddance.

In my youth, Tassie was described as the Island of A,B and C. Apples, Beer and Crumpet.
If you played up you got your name printed in the local paper.

Tasmania is a dingy little island run by a logging company called Gunns. It has superb hiking/bushwalking and skiing.

Pretty good weed down there apparently.
