So /trv/

In exactly one week I'll be on the plane to Tokyo. I got my ticket for the flight back booked, which will be 2 1/2 months later. I got accomodations for the first weeks in Tokyo, then I got almost nothing planned. Money is not an issue at all, also I got one month worth of JR Rail Passes with me.

Now here's a simple request: Where should I go, where should I stay? I am practically free to do anything, just have to catch my flight back, after the period is over.

Leave Tokyo after the Week. Tokyo is great, but i strongly recommend also visiting some remote places of Japan.

Near Tokyo there is Nikko and Kamakura, both worth a visit if you are interested in japanese Culture.

An Idea: Try to get to the northern most Point of Japan and then to the southern most part of Kyushu.

I even thought about taking the ferry to Okinawa and I'll definitely visit Hokkaido. (I know someone from Sapporo.)

Aside from that, I thought about visiting Tono, since there was a thread here a few weeks ago in which someone recommended it. I'll also see Kyoto, Nara and Osaka, Hiroshima too, I guess.

I did this last summer. 3 months. Japan rail pass is sooooooooooo good, I wish you could get 3 month passes.

I spent the first 3 weeks travelling EVERYWHERE. The next 2 months+ I only got a train twice (pig expensive) and stayed in an apartment in NW Tokyo (Takashimadaira) for a while. Spent most days exploring randomly, picking a new train station or train line and exploring in the hot-ass sun. It was awesome. Hopping from hostel to hostel, and the occasional short-stay apartment.

Takashimadaira is a nice neighbourhood. A few elementary schools and good parks (yes I'm a pedo, yes I'm comfortable with that, no I'd never harm a child) which was nice.

My absolute favourite place in Japan is Fukuoka, where I stayed for sadly less than a week. I didn't see much of Kyushu because I spent so much time exploring its capital. Truly glorious. Also, the lolis in southern Japan are gloriously tanned, which is my fetish. I also like that it's coastal.

Go everywhere OP. I started from Tokyo, headed up north to Hokkaido and then back down across Kansai, along the coast, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima and some other places I don't remember the names of. Hiroshima is nice. Really nice. Kyoto is awesome too. Osaka is like Tokyo, but it feels bigger (even though it isn't)

This christmas I'm going back. Gonna be exploring the rest of Kyushu.

This man is correct. Kyoto was awesome. I recommend going to Kansai for a while. I was there for about a month and loved it. 3 days in Tokyo was enough for me, to be honest. Not my cup of tea.
