Now I'm dead set on doing a two week biking excursion there. I'm a endurance cyclist and I think biking is the best way to connect with the land around you. I've heard that the roads in Japan are a lot of inclines, and I'm fine with that.
So my question is... What would be the best route for a cyclist to take to really get a good feel for the country? I was thinking of landing in Tokyo, stopping through Kyoto, ending in Hiroshima, and stopping at as many small towns, beaches, temples, etc as I can along the way.
I'm just in the preliminary planning stages of this trip, so I'm interested in feedback.
