Hey /trv/ Iam deftly afraid of heights and the deep sea. Today I will be taking a 8 hour long flight to Turkey and a hour long flight to Greece(I know I know its cheaper this way). Can you tell me things to do to pass the time ? Also what are the chances of me getting in an accident ? If I do I hope my relatives sue the shit out of the company.

Pass time: read a book
Accident chances: 100%

Make friends. Go around and try to meet all the hot girls on the plane.

Take laptop and shitloads of anime with you.

Laptop or book. Sodoku or a puzzle book is great as well.

Put it this way, you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning. In fact, flying is one of the safest ways to travel.

There's a bigger chance of being hit by a car than getting killed by an airplane crash.

nyquil kthx.

Pray for your life during takeoff and landing. All it takes is one stray bird to fuck your entire day up.

Trust me on this one.

Stock up on melatonin. Clonidine knocks me out pretty well, you might want to try that.

Oh, and as>>39398said, Nyquil. It's all right if you take enough of it.

After that, you'll be so out of it you won't even notice any accidents (if they happen).

Good luck OP.

You mean Klonipin. Clonidine is a blood pressure medicine.

Ignore the emergency instructions - noone has ever survived a commercial airline water landing.

>>deftly afraid

deftly

adverb
1. with dexterity; in a dexterous manner; "dextrously he untied the knots" [syn: dexterously]
2. in a deft manner; "Lois deftly removed her scarf"

Stop repeating things you heard in a stand-up comedy routine as though they were fact. People can and do survive airliner water landings (see: Ethiopian Airlines 961). The odds are against you, but it's not a 100% chance of death.

Whether reading the safety cards will actually make a difference is another matter, though.

Me (>>40628) again.

I just did some googling. If Wikipedia's statistics are accurate, you have a better chance of surviving an intentional water ditching (as opposed to uncontrolled crash into the sea).

The Ethiopian Airlines example had a higher fatality rate because the hijackers were fighting with the pilots at the moment of impact, so they hit the water at an odd angle. In light of that, it's debatable whether it's even a legitimate case of a "water landing"

Pic is of a Honolulu-San Francisco flight being ditched in the Pacific Ocean. 100% survival rate thanks to the pilots bringing it down next to a US Navy ship, which immediately rescued everyone on board.

Also, to the op: Xanax is king, but Doxylamine Succinate is ok in a pinch. I also like Dramamine (old formula).

Which airline are you flying? Last time I checked, British Airways was the safest in the world, followed by Lufthansa

You were crazy in the first place

Sleep to adjust your body clock maybe?

Nah, I meant clonidine. My brother was prescribed it to help him sleep after taking prozac or ritalin or something like that. I took a few and was out for hours.
