Hi /trv/, I'm traveling up to DC tomorrow. What should I see? What are some awesome things people might not know about?

Smithsonian Natural History Museum is free and fun. or you can go rant at your congressman. they are pretty much obligated to listen to you.

Monuments. That's about it. All the places people want to go see are swamped, especially the White House. Some places are cool to see. I personally like seeing the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. It's all black and reflective and kind of cool. It's these places where you might see people grieving and it gives you a better sense of the reality of the war(s) rather than reading it in a textbook. There's also a tour of Arlington Cemetary, but it's nothing special. All the other monuments are cool. Though the Washington Monument has got to be the most boring unless you're into huge phallic shaped objects.

National Air and Space museum is there too. But any museum is good as long as it tailors to your own interest.

All the museums on the National Mall: Air-space, National Gallery of Art, Natural History, Freer Gallery (asian art).

And at the end of the Mall on the front-right of the Captial building is the National Botanical Gardens building that is a great place to warm up since it has a large jungle glass building.

Air and Space Museum is just as cool as Smithsonian, go see it

Smithsonian is win.

Spy museum is fun, and all of the art galleries are very nice.

Also, go see the monuments at night. They're all lit up and pretty, and there's usually less people.

The Washington Post has the best city guide-- they list just about everything worthwhile, in just about every category. I check it every time I go to DC

and yeah the Spy Museum is fun.

Natural History is a shell of its former glory :( I'd suggest Air & Space instead.

I don't know if the FBI does tours in the Hoover bldg anymore, but once upon a time those were flipping legendary.

Also Mt. Vernon is pretty cool, chock full of that colonial stuff.

If you're into Chinese food, China Town is a must. Also most all of the Smithsonian museums are great, also they're free.

The local pastime in DC is getting mugged by upstanding negro gentlemen. Have fun.

Pic related.

Avoid the SOUTH EAST and you will be fine.

Georgetown is a cool place to visit.

Check out the Native American Museum, as it's the most recent. And the Hirshhorn Museum of Art. It always has the craziest stuff in there that's worth a conversation or two.

its not quite baseball season yet, but when I'm there when it is I always catch a Nats game. Especially this season with the new park on the river, and good seats can be had for 20-25 dollars.

Get tickets to the hottest show in town. Next week, they're featuring the Second Amendment in a rare one-day-only performance!

Do the D.C. Ducks Tour. It starts in Union Station and actually takes you on the Potomac. Also, catch some theater; there's a 1/2 price ticket place on 6th and D NW. Get a Metro train day pass after 9:30 and roam all day for under 8 bucks. Catch a show at the 9:30 Club or the Black Cat. Get some tasty Ethopian at Dukem or a 2 AM snack at Ben's Chilli Bowl (U Street).

As for the known stuff, yeah the Smithsonian is free and rockin' with Dokken.

I'm pseudo-anti Adam's Morgan and I think ChinaTown is overrated.
