Hey Travelers its been my life dream to take a huge trip starting in England and driving (I'm a little insane) all the way to china and then ending up in Japan (via boat or plane idc) I want to hit all the hotspots or as many as I can, taking a day in each major tourist spot, living in my car. I'm finally getting to a time in my life where I can finally do it.

I was wondering how long this would take, how much money I would need (i'm not buying any gifts or suvies) what places I should stop at and I was wondering if this is even possible.

Also I'm looking for 1-2 others to come with us if anyone is looking for an adventure in a year or so :) I'd love to hear what you guys have to say.

P.S. I'm just now entering the planning phase with smiles and hope, for those thinking I haven't thought this through you would be right, I'm just now starting to make my dream a reality.

With expensive gas, I don't know how cheaply this could be done but it seems like it'd be a ton of fun. I'm also sure you could do it with less than 10,000 dollars.

trans siberian railway, this is your answer

what route would you want to take? I'd only have some security concerns traveling alone (speak: without local guide) between europe and china.

This is something I've also always wanted to do, although if I was driving I would go to to Thailand via Turkey and a couple of car ferries to avoid dangerous areas. I also want to do the Trans-Siberian to Vladivostok or Trans-Mongolian route down to Hong Kong.

There's a lot to consider, even things like having a left-hand or right-hand drive vehicle. You need something big that will survive on low grade petrol or diesel and can also carry spare fuel, tyres and other spares. Ideally you want a vehicle that's already been prepared for such an expedition (pictured), but they're not cheap (although hold their value well). You've also got to get all your papers in order, which isn't always easy or cheap. There's a lot of research to do too, even down to knowing about Police bribes. I think with a decent vehicle, you'll be talking £20,000+, obviously if you can split that with people it's better, but the more people, the harder it'll be to accommodate them all.

be sure you'll have a lot of trouble with burocracy for taking a car to a lot of foreign countries

Yeah, you usually need a full list of everything you're carrying which you'll need to declare. When you cross boarders they can either just wave you through or if they want, check through everything to make sure it's in order and that you're not smuggling anything. It can take days sometimes, plus sometimes you may have to modify your vehicle to meet local laws.

There are tour companies like OZbus that go from London to Sydney. That costs around £5000 once you've included visas and border taxes etc. That trip generally takes about 90 days.

I would say that>>82090is probably about right at the £20K region if you had to get a suitable vehicle. You could probably do it in a Subaru Outback or a reliable, rugged people carrier if you can't afford a 4X4. But like that anon said, you need to leave space for carrying spares as well as all the stuff you're taking.

What are you going to do when you get there? Especially when it comes to the car.

From what I gather it's nigh on impossible to enter china in your own vehicle without registering your travel plans prior to the trip and employing a guide. Consider driving to Singapore or similar and ship your vehicle to Australia, it'd be much more interesting and you could probably visit Japan in the meantime until the container arrives in ausfaliure. Assuming you are British you could take advantage of the WHV scheme to pay for the trip and shipping back home.

Some Irishmen drove from Ireland to Australia a few years back in a 10 year old BMW Saloon.

That's pretty awesome.

I think you should do either extreme - either an old banger, a tent and some backpacks or spend a bit of cash and treat it like an expedition. It's such a once in a lifetime thing to do, you want to make sure you do it right.

If it's near impossible to enter china with a vehicle how is he supposed to get to singapore when he cannot enter Myanmar by land?
