If you're willing to go a bit south, Dubrovnik, Croatia is supposed to be a gorgeous city.

dunno bout southern europe but i can expound on the above list of destinations. prague is the most exciting of the four, it's got the biggest variety of things to see. cracow is like prague jr. and vienna is pretty boring. it's littered with neoclassical and art nouveau apartment buildings and baroque churches and palaces but not much besides. it can get a bit, let's say, redundant after a while. particularly since the baroque style itself is pretty redundant. i haven't been to berlin but from what i understand there isn't a whole lot of old stuff left there, what with the war and the destruction of large swaths of the city. i'm sure it has the most modern-day attractions of the lot, though.

Croatia is nice on the coast and Zagreb is okay too, but you only need to go a few kilometers inland to see bombed out cities that haven't been fixed.

Protips - Hvala vam = thank you. Use it often
- If you go trekking, beware land mines lol
- Don't ever get out of your car at night, or ever stop to help out at a road "accident". People stage accidents...then stab you when u get out of the car. Ive never seen it but it has happened to friends of mine and its common around tourist areas .
- Don't be Jewish, or Albanian (or Serbian i guess) a surprising amount of people are neo nazi's

other then that the country is great (seriously)

I just stumbled across this travel blog yesterday - http://brownvanman.wordpress.com/ Recent entries are about Central Europe

Cheers for the Croatia bit.

Yeah, anything about Romania? The plan is to drive in from the West and head to Bucharest.

I know of the hilariously gigantic building in the middle of the capital city but nothing else.

Stop by Bran Castle and Sighisoara if you're into Dracula, which you are.

Maybe see Timisoara? First european city to have electric lights!

Isnt Dubrovnik a bit risky seeing how close it is to the terrorism shithole that Serbia currently is?

Uh, there's a whole fucking country + a good chunk of Bosnian/Croatian teritorry between Dubrovnik and Serbia? Nothing will happen to Dubrovnik because of the Kosovo situation.
Also, while 14549 gives good general advice, minefields are clearly marked (not minefields actually, just areas that haven't been thoroughly checked yet), nobody will stab you unless you're a local (and that is quite rare too) - recently there's been a mugging of a foreign tourist in the coast who hitched a ride with 2 cro guys who mugged him and all he got was a punch in the face + the guys who did it got caught by police a few hours after that. But stuff like that can happen to you anywhere.
Also, don't worry about your ancestry, if you speak english and are not being a dick in general you'll be fine.

The Krautlands are a decent place, for nature, sightseeing as well as urban life. Germany, Switzerland and Austria, respectively. As safe as it can get, too. Of southern europe... well, Greece WAS a nice place. Think they're getting pretty fed up with tourists these days, by what I hear. Same goes for Crete and the other midget isles. I'd personally want to visit Corsica, Sardinia, Malta and Sicily when it comes to southern europe, but Italy in general would do. Spain and Portugal aren't bad either, 'though I hear the bigger cities, especially in Portugal, can turn out to be just as hospitable and easy on the eyes as Kabul.

Berlin is cheap and lots of fun. Stay in Friedrichshain or Kreuzberg

Shameless plug for my country: if you are into climbing/hiking/skiing, go and see the Rila and Pirin mountains in Bulgaria. The Black Sea draws lots of tourists in the summer, including Scandinavians and British. Although in the last couple of years the goddamn development companies poured metric fucktons of concrete all over the place.
