ITT we discuss what people are irrationally hated in your country and how you feel about it.

I'm from Chile and we have some kind of rivalry thing going on with the Argentines. Apparently, we almost went to war with them during the Falklands War. They're often portrayed as arrogant, conniving and narcissistic.

Personally, I think that's bullshit. Every Argentine I've ever met has been extremely polite and affectionate. Also, they have good reason to be narcissistic as most of them are extremely sexy.

pic unrelated, but possibly related to american stereotypes

How do you feel about Chile being awfully narrow?

Here in Canada, the generality is that everyone hates americans. but then once we find one living amonst us, it turns out that that person is pretty nice. i guess we hate the American idea.

Francamente, a mi me caen peor a los Chilenos que los Argentinos. Pero eso podria ser porque yo vivo con ellos.

It's okay. You get a wide variety of climates. Imagine if you took the entire west coast of North America, from Baja Mexico to Alaska and then flipped it upside down. That's basically Chile.

In Scotland a fair amount of hate is directed towards "the English". I've been trying to understand this phenomenon all my life and I still don't really get it.

The hatred is strongest amongst Catholics, who have mostly Irish ancestry, and nationalists who believe they are Celtic.

I've noticed nobody really hates individual English people here, it's just when "the English" are mentioned as a group it evokes feelings of "grudge and grievance".

Its quite justified. The rest of the world hates the imperialistic British too, so its only natural that those having to live ride beside them would have an especially strong grudge.

You sound like a typical American who thinks Britain = England. Scots ARE British and took part in the imperialism of the empire too. However the popular conception is that Scotland was an innocent bystander in the empire, or even a "victim". The truth is the Scots were not such reluctant participants once the spoils started rolling in.

Ausfag here.
Argentina and Chile are basically the same anyway, only Chile has a better economy. Far, far better than all the other South American countries that's for sure.

The Scottish are not British.

You are either a troll or the product of a failed education system. Assuming the latter:

Great Britain is an island. The native peoples of this island are British. Hence Scots are British.

But most of them hate the idea of Britain as a country and thus aren't British in that sense

Ireland is one of the British Isles so technically they are British, but they all would take offense to calling them that.

The lords were, but not the 99% of us who had to deal with your brutal imperialism, there were a bunch of Africans and Americans who took part in the empire too.

Scotland was the first and one of the few remaining English colonies

By who's standards...? They're both ranked next to each other on the UN HDI, as in they are BOTH first world nations. They're both regarded by FTSE as 'emerging economies' and both have similar levels of GDP/capita...
Chile is just nicer anyway, plus it has this (see pic).

False. The union could never have lasted 300 years if this was true.

>Ireland is one of the British Isles
Wrong. Learn some geography.

Now it's just obvious you are a butthurt chilean.

I honestly have never been to either country, but from what I've read Chile has one of the highest gaps between rich and poor *in the world*. According to the United Nations, their GDP per capita is lower than Argentina, they have illiteracy problems, and rank lower in the HDI, so I see no basis to say that it's "much much better" than other countries in the region.

And who the fuck cares about some shitty elite resort for rich people? That means nothing. If you are going to judge countries, at least use a more representative picture.
