what does /trv/ think of Urban Exploration?
>> Anonymous
I apologize if this is not the board for this subject to be posted.
>> Anonymous
apology accepted

but it would be interesting to hear the views of people in this board. especially in foreign cities (which i imagine would make it more dangerous)

>Urban Exploration
what? you mean just walking around in an urban city?
>> Anonymous
he probably means the new fad that is parkour or "free running"
>> Anonymous
New fad? Parkour is old as shit.

Urban exploration is going around in sewers that lead to huge chambers underneath cities that are mysteriously not on the subterranean maps and stuff. There's some wicked picks of stuff under cities.
>> Anonymous
>>35709
why would you go into the sewers? what a stupid idea, and a great way to ruin clothes and smell like shit. get a job you fucking bum.
>> Anonymous
>>35712

By sewers I meant to type storm drains. Where all the rain water gets shifted around until it's dumped out into a river/lake again. Not the ones that carry piss and shit around.

>>35716
oh ok, my view about you changed. sounds like fun with someone, but to hell with going at it alone.
>> Anonymous
It's great if you want to just explore humanity's footprint and get a full grasp of an area, so it's too bad that it's for-the-most-part illegal. Although the people who make it out to be some big way-of-life, harrowing experience just seem to be desperately trying to justify their existence.

Anyone in Brisbane, Australia here? I need volunteers to join me in an adventure I've been planning... Any takers?

P.S. if your attitude towards this stuff is like any of the fallowing posts, don't bother replying to my offer.

>>35723I am interested; but I am nowhere near Brisbane.

I would seriously like to know more about what this is. It sounds kind of like DnD in the drains of modern cities. Do you carry weapons? Dungeoneering gear? Btw, not a troll. Genuine interest, here.

Any DC fags interested in finding some manmade caverns?

tl;dr: Relevant to my TT/IRL interests.

A dungeon crawl in the capitol of the world? No thanks.

im at home atm so obviously cannot see it in detail
what exactly do you have in mind?
>> Anonymous
.
>> Anonymous
it's pretty fun(if you do it right and don't get raeped/arrested/hurt in the process)
i've got some old Atlas Missile launch sites and storage hangars out in the hills a few miles from my house. i have not been there yet but i plan on doing so now that i'm out of school.

Basic recommendation: Treat it like you're going caving.

In other words, take two flashlights and spare batteries for both. If you lose light, you're fucked. Also, in large underground areas make sure you're keeping track of where you are on a map (if one doesn't exist, make it yourself as you go) because if you get lost, you're fucked.

City Library one side, State at the other. below bridges that people walk.... possible under platforms where one boards a cat.... Look around there.... hell, you able to meet up today-tomorrow? Name a place to discuss this farther. Reminder, if you’re not what I’m looking for, don’t expect anything.

That's half the fun you dolt.... an adventures not an adventure if everything’s been done before or planned out ahead.... then that's just a "pre-planed tour"… but eh... I guess some people have absolutely no feeling to this stuff... -_-

Do what ever makes you happy, but there's a difference between adventure and being stupid.

My friend is into this. She keeps trying to convince me to try it, but I usually holler. "MOLD, ASBESTOS, ROTTEN WOOD FLOORS, MILDEW, DEAD SHIT" at her until she leaves me alone.

i love urban exploration. you get to see places most of society forgot long ago, and get a glimpse into how things were built and done in the era whatever you are exploring was created in.

doesn't have to be just draining, but you can do utility tunnels, roofs, insides of bridges, and abandoned structures too
>> Anonymous
So... any takers? or still all.... nothin?

I'm in Brisbane, under North Quay, at least one large storm water outlet. I used to see it when I worked on the Citycats.

Going caving are we? :) I'm interested and like this sort of thing. Have been thinking of trying my hand at urban exploration for a while. Arrange a meeting or IM?

wish i had more pictures from that time. we used to find some pretty cool stuff - huge chambers, waterfalls, crazy art, shortcuts, etc

i almost died doing that, cause the tube i was in was half way filled with dirt, it was a small tunnel, but other than that, my experiience has always been great

Waterfalls! ^_^I got hurt on the way back through one of those, was tiny though, so no big deal…

Are you the Anon who resides in Brisbane? Or are you another?

It's decided then! All Brisbane Folk who fit the fallowing criteria, who are interested or know someone in Brisbane who'd be interested, meet on au.austnet.org #trv 8:30 sharp tonight.

Criteria:

Not excessively fat. - You won’t fit if you are.
Not a new fag who can't shut up about 4chan memes. – Last thing we want is to be stuck in a pipe with one of those.
Not loose cannon. – Self explanatory.
Some experience with crazy adventures would be preferred. – All are welcome as long as they are not a liability.

actually from southern california, but i know that australia is home to one of the most famous groups of urban spelunkers - the cave clan! i think they're mostly melbourne active though
>> Anonymous
Awesome shit. It's a lot easier now too with the internets and whatnot
>> Anonymous
God I could never do something like this. Though at the same time I am immensely fascinated by it.

If you guys are into this stuff, check out the magazine Weird NJ... they specialize in urban exploration in the tri-state area.
