Apart from what every tourist does, take a walk in the streets of Balat at the neck of the historic peninsula and take the ferry to the Asian side. Not much history and whatnot on the Asian side, but worth seeing as it has a different feel than that of the European side; more homely I would say. Also don't forget to take the Bosphorus Ferry (Bo?az Vapuru).

Here's the simple fact of the Turks of Western Thrace, they have their own Mosques (maintained by the state), their own 'representative' imam who meets with the Foreign Minister, they have quotas in the civil service for jobs, they have all their rights under Lausanne guaranteed.... Now, compare that to the treatment of the Greeks of Istanbul:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul_Pogrom

And tell me this is a matter of 'equal weight' and 'equal responsibility'.

Again, just like the ignorant racists you are exemplifying do, they give irrelevant information about history, statistics about how land ownership in Thrace decreased rapidly among Turks, how teacher exchange programs were undercut, how there are "breeding laws", state helps people with more than three kids only if they are of "hellenic descent", not to mention the state of greece being officially christian unlike the secular republic of turkey. Adnan Menderes, the fucking prime minister was executed, what else do you want for the pogrom?

No, I'm not saying Turkey is a great place to be a minority, but don't act like Greece is the epitome of free and equal living in the region to satiate your nationalist feelings.

When did I ever say it was? You can ascribe problems in both countries, my problem comes from this simple fact. Claiming that Greece's problems are EQUIVOCAL to Turkey's problems. Greece may have nationalists, but the 'golden dawn' and their allies are not part of the Police, the Security Services, the Secret Services and so on. As they are in Turkey. Where the nationalistic party regularly scores 20% of the vote.

>state helps people with more than three kids only if they are of "hellenic descent"

So the fuck what? This is our state, we can do what we want. Did we go into Western Thrace and burn the mosques to the ground? No. Did we organize mass level violence against them? No. Fine... Then the 'problems' are not equivocal.

>not to mention the state of greece being officially christian unlike the secular republic of turkey

And yet we do not burn mosques to the ground, as I have already stated, whereas Turks do, and refuse to open the Halki seminary, or recognize the Patriarch's Ecumenical title, despite being 'officially' secular.

And as far as the 'region' goes (Balkans and Anatolia). Then yeh, Greece is a far more respectful of human rights than Turkey is.

Actually, as a neutral observer of this debate, I may point out that you have no basis on which to call him a racist. He simply referred to Turks as "uneducated illiterates", which is true, since Turkey has a 88.3% literacy rate and very low university attendance rates, much lower than the EU average.

Using "racist" as an ad hominem is as bad as being racist in itself.

>>7589
>As they are in Turkey. Where the nationalistic party regularly scores 20% of the vote.
Actually, they couldn't get in the parliament in the last election, and in this one they got 15% thanks to people getting butthurt over PKK attacks.

>So the fuck what? This is our state, we can do what we want.
This is where you lose all your credibility, in the same way people "burned churches" because it was "their" country and they did what the fuck they wanted. But let's continue for posterity's sake.

>Did we go into Western Thrace and burn the mosques to the ground? No. Did we organize mass level violence against them? No. Fine... Then the 'problems' are not equivocal.
>And yet we do not burn mosques to the ground,
Again, look at your fucking calendar.

>and refuse to open the Halki seminary, or recognize the Patriarch's Ecumenical title, despite being 'officially' secular.
the point you are missing is, establishments of that nature aren't allowed if they are islamic too. There is no double standard here.

>And as far as the 'region' goes (Balkans and Anatolia). Then yeh, Greece is a far more respectful of human rights than Turkey is.
Is it better? Yes. Would I be comfortable living there as a Turk? No.

Ahahaha, oh wow... Spain had a terrorist attack, so did Britain... When the IRA were bombing London did 15% of Brits vote for the BNP?

>This is where you lose all your credibility, in the same way people "burned churches" because it was "their" country and they did what the fuck they wanted. But let's continue for posterity's sake.

No, you see, there's a clear difference between promoting birth rates amongst your native population with monetary incentive (something a lot of developed countries have started to do), and burning down churches. If you cant see that you're a fucking moron.

>Again, look at your fucking calendar.

Looking... still looking....

Nope, cant spot anything.

>the point you are missing is, establishments of that nature aren't allowed if they are islamic too. There is no double standard here.

What the fuck? There are plenty of schools for Mullahs all over Turkey in Istanbul, Ankara or wherever... Stop playing coy.

>No, you see, there's a clear difference between promoting birth rates amongst your native population with monetary incentive (something a lot of developed countries have started to do), and burning down churches. If you cant see that you're a fucking moron.
Again, is there such a discrimination in Turkey? Nope... Well, I guess burning down a church at some point in history justifies a group to be treated as second-class citizens.
>Looking... still looking....
Keep looking, it may take a while - it's been a long time after 1955 after all...

>What the fuck? There are plenty of schools for Mullahs all over Turkey in Istanbul, Ankara or wherever... Stop playing coy.
Ahh... I would invite you to learn the details of the retarded Turkish university system, but I'll cut to the chase, even in "mullah" schools religious clothing isn't allowed and the school is governed along with regular universities, opening the school in the same manner was offered, but orthodox priests wearing suits apparently looked too stupid to them too. I'm sure there were other issues, but clothing thing was on media a lot these days that's what I remember now.

>Stop trying to make it look like you'd be lynched on the streets. A Turk in Athens or Thessaloniki wouldn't attract ANY attention, don't flatter yourself.
I never said such a thing, not to mention a Greek here wouldn't attract any attention whatsoever either, the problem is being a second-class citizen.

>and refuse to open the Halki seminary, or recognize the Patriarch's Ecumenical title

You do realize, Turkey abolished the Caliphate some 80+ years ago and officially became a laic (if not secular; there is a difference) state. The Ecumenical Patriarchate is the equivalent of the Caliphate and as such, this puts you in the position of asking for a double standard in favor of the Greek minority of Turkey.

The Halki seminary was offered the same status as schools of Islamic theology in universities, which they promptly rejected. Sorry but you cannot expect Turkey to give privileges to its Greek minority over its other citizens.

>No, you see, there's a clear difference between promoting birth rates amongst your native population with monetary incentive
See? You don't even consider the Turkish minority in Western Thrace your own people. They are "outsiders", "foreigners" even.

No... it doesn't, the Ecumenical Patriarch is NOT the equivalent of a fucking caliphate, the term 'Ecumenical' just represents his precedence over other Orthodox Bishops, nothing more.

>See? You don't even consider the Turkish minority in Western Thrace your own people. They are "outsiders", "foreigners" even.

Of course they're not my own people, they choose the isolation in which they live and the reasons they are generally hated by society at large is quite evident from their general attitude towards Greek society:

How does the Pope threaten Italy? The Patriarch isn't asking for land, or anything like that. He just wants his life protected from your state supported nutcases who bomb his home and the status of 'Ecumenical', which has absolutely NOTHING to do with the caliphate.

Also, did you watch the video? Would you like it if a Greek was doing that in Turkey? I sincerely doubt it.

And, again, you don't understand what the caliphate is. We officially have no shit to do with religion, so there can't be an ecumenical church just like there can't be a form claiming control over muslims.

Nice rewording there. How does Greece support the PKK anyway? Other than crazy conspiracy theories? Did you listen to what that crazy imam says?
>> anonymous of athens !SysNpnp3nU

Also, what exactly do the Turks of Thrace want? Do they want to be equal? Thats cool, we'll just get rid of the quota they have for civil service jobs, we'll get rid of the imam representative too. Thats fine, right?
