I learned today that I'm going to get my year in Austria for study abroad when I'm a junior (in college.) Woo.

How hard is Austrian german for an outsider to understand? Keep in mind that I can have pretty decent conversations with my friend from Ulm. But I've been told their idioms are really weird.
Kennst du mich hilfen?

I didn't really notice much of a difference in language when I went to Austria.
I'm not fluent in German or anything, so maybe that's why, but they understood me just fine and I was able to understand them.

The difference in Austrian German is like seven words. I wouldn't call it a dialect. Texans and Canadians probably have more differences than germans & austrians in language. Have fun yelling moo to the cows.
