Chicago - San Fransico Anonymous
I'm planing a 4 week roadtrip from chicago to san francisco in June. What's there to see on the road?

I already took those in consideration:
- Grand Canyon
- Yosemite
- Yellowstone
- Death Valley
- Las Vegas

If anyone wants to show 2 euro-metalfaqs the proudness of his state, please do!

Don't take route 66, it's actually pretty boring.
Instead, you should go Chicago - St. Louis - Denver (see Rocky Mountain National Park), then take the state highways through the mountains down to the Four Corners. From there go see the Grand Canyon, and pass through death valley while finishing your trip to San Fran.

wow there are some incredible things there!

Thx 4 the advice to not take the route 66. I don't want to be a masstourist

I really don't see what's so incredible about the US. It has many natural treasures sure but honestly that stuff bores me to no end. Europe is far more interesting if you ask me.

Wouldn't want to miss the CORN PALACE

Number 1 priority needs to be Yosemite. Seriously, this is the most incredible natural place I have ever seen in my life.

Granted, I went there right after they got one of their largest snowstorms in over a decade, I'm still sure it would be beautiful in June. That's when the waterfalls are at their height.

Pic related, I took it.

what are some good places in las vegas that i should check out

Europe is the product of thousands of years of a small minority of people controlling all the wealth which resulted in awesome palaces and what not. America only had a brief experience of that thus not a whole lot of awesome man made stuff

Beautiful place. Been there multiple times, for some reason I prefer the Bridal Veil area myself though.

OP, you're not going to see Las Vegas unless you take a long ass detour and head south and then after you're done with vegas you're just gonna have to go back north again anyway. Also, as a vegasfag, I can assure you that it is totally not worth it to come to this shithole. Save your time and your money and just skip it.

Swim in the freezing, but clear waters of Lake Tahoe.
Mormon Tabernacle in Salt Lake City if you like architecture.
Travel through South Dakota and see Mount Rushmore/Black Hills/etc.
Have a steak in Omaha.

What are you're plans in the Bay Area?

OP here, california has strict car exhaust rules. So we thought selling the car in vegas would be a good idea. I am no gambling fan but vegas has more than that, hasn't it?

In San Francisco i will learn surfing. We know someone there and she will show us the city. I don't have other plans yet. I think visting LA may be a good idea.

Looks like Yosemite is must. The Omaha steak is definitly in my interest and south dakota sounds interesting too. Looks like 4 weeks may be not enough.

Regarding San Francisco, be sure to visit the areas surrounding the city. Like... be sure to visit a winery in Napa, just don't go to the Napa city, it's really quite... unimpressive, to say the least.

Don't pass up the redwood parks. They can be quite stunning.

Carmel-By-The-Sea, Monterey (Cannery Row)... Big Sur is a must.

Death Valley, the Hearst Castle

When travelling across the US, stop by a good ghost town. Some of them can be pretty cool. Bodie, California, seems to be pretty famous for a ghost town. Native American ruins, as well. Mesa Verde, Bandelier, lots of amazing places to visit in the Southwest. Just gotta look around.

Antelope Canyon and Lake Powell are nice destinations.

Pic related, it's Antelope Canyon.

Oakland sucks. So does the entire East Bay. I'm in Hercules working a contract, and fuck -- in the last week I've seen more angry black people than I have in my entire adult life. Including the fucking hysterical bitch who tried to run me off the road, and also including the fat fuck who rubbed his belly up against me and said AH GOING TO WHUP YO AZZ when I knocked on his door at 3:30AM and asked him to keep the noise level down.

Black white trash. There's a word for people like that, but I can't use it. And Oakland is their headquarters. May the Chinese nuke it, so long as the fallout doesn't reach my hotel room.

Don't take Interstate 80. Driving through Nebraska will be the most boring experience of your life. Of course the same goes for crossing just about any midwestern plains state. That said, I recommend going through South Dakota and splitting off Interstate 90 to see Mt. Rushmore, then continuing on two western Wyoming to see Yellowstone, then Boise Idaho, on over to Portland, then south to San Fran. It'll be more scenic, and a hell of a lot cooler than driving through Southern Cal, Nevada, Arizona, etc in the summer.
