The world is a thing that will - if you aren't totally, completely prepared, both mentally and physically - chew you up and spit you out in the dirt to die. Trying to experience it with grand ideas swimming around in your head, completely surpressing any notion of common sense and pragmatic thought WILL get you in trouble with the law, scammed, hurt or killed.
At your age, I'd strongly suggest that you get some experience; a few weekend trips to big cities under your belt, or maybe a daytrip across the border to Canada or Mexico. Have relatives (or close friend) living somewhere that's not podunk bumfuck USA? Go live with them for a weekend, and have them show you around. Or sign up for some sort of cultural exchange program - these are often good for introducing you to a foregin culture while keeping you relatively safe and secure. Spanish/French/German/etc. classes in school usually offer trips to countires that speak the language being taught, often at a subsidized price.
Get your papers in order. passport, driver's license, social security, insurance cards, and whatever forms of ID you yanks have.
And never try and work in a foregin country without the right visas. In most countries this is illegal, and if you're caught you can get into deep shit.
