The crab is from Doutonbori. So is the goddamned clown (from Kuidaore -- it's closed now). The Glico guy can be seen there too. DenDen Town is represented. Universal Studios, Kaiyukan (the bigass aquarium), Osaka Castle, the Umeda Sky Building.

The Mint, maybe?

Reference to Shin-Imamiya Stn?

Yeah, I think I'm out.

I was going to start a nnew thread but then I saw this one. So.

I'm going to japan later on this year and I thought I might chance asking in here where in Osaka/tokyo is worth visiting? Where have you been? what would you would/woudn't you reccomend?

To start, unless you're looking to get laid, avoid Roppongi like the plague.
>> Anonymous
>>51830
The Mori Tower thinger is in Roppongi Hills. It's worth a trip. But yeah, don't party in Roppongi unless you want an exotic STD, or to be roughed up by Nigerians.
>> Anonymous
>>51830
For Tokyo

Roppongi girls are sluts and if you're halfway decent and try you'll get some asian pussy. There are some decent clubs there and its a pretty fun area, but do NOT follow Nigerians to their clubs or follow a girl you feel is completely out of your league to another club. You WILL get drugged, you WILL have cash stolen from you, and you WILL not have a good time afterwards.

Shibuya has the best looking girls in the country and more of the upscale fashion area. Shibuya also has the best clubs

Harajuku next door has more of the youth fashion and was one of my favorite areas to shop. Harajuku also has Yayogi park, which you can just goto, drink, and just hang out. You'll see all kinds of hobbyist like people who dress up from Grease and dance. Harajuku also has Barbacoa, all you can eat steak and for a lil more all you can drink. It was a GOD send in Japan after eating nothing but Japanese food for a couple months.

Theres Akihabara, filled with anime shit and electronics. I didn't really look at the anime crap much except out of weirded interest so I don't know if you get deals on that stuff there or not. You won't really get much of a deal on electronics as its kind of a tourist area now, so expect to pay about the cheapest you would find online. There are true deals there but they are pretty hard to find.

Nakameguro is the place to go for restaurants

Jiyugaoka has olympic park in it, its a cool place to go at night and climb on the roof of the gym as you can see a good part of the city for free.

Ebisu has the beer museum.

Odaiba is pretty cool to hang out at but the beach is disgusting.

Pretty much every stop on the subway has something worthwhile nearby so just explore.

Shinjuku apparently has a prety

>>Shinjuku apparently has a prety

Shinjuku apparently has a pretty large red light district but I didn't explore it thoroughly and only went into the very large hotel that was seen in Lost in Translation
>> Anonymous
>>51840
>see a good part of the city for free

that's the Metropolitan Government Tower in Shinjuku

free, and a really nice view
>> Anonymous
>>51846
Completely forgot about that place, its a good view too.

Its definitely a completely different atmosphere drinking on the top of a roof and looking at the city then going up that building though.

>>51840
good guide.

has anyone here used Google Streetview (and Wikimapia) as a pre-trip look at Tokyo and just about every one of its streets?
that one street along the Meguro River with the cherry blossoms looks like a nice place to walk in the evening.
and that one street, around the Roppongi Kosaten intersection, has a lot of nice restaurants and stores and shit like that.
the great thing about using Streetview with Wikimapia is that Wikimapia has most of it's highlights in English, so then that you can view Tokyo on google in satelite view and match up what you see on Wikimapia with the Streetview. It's incredibly fun and a way to see the city before actually going there in person.
Speaking of Shinjuku, how the Gyoen National Garden? Worth a visit?
And what about Ikebukuro? Looks like a less hyped version of Shinjuku from the map. Nice stores all about.

Yoyogi. Not Yayogi. Yoyogi.
Meiji Jingu is there, too.

Also in Tokyo, buy a Pasmo, put 10 bucks on it and walk through EVERY SINGLE subway turnstyle. You will save a fuck ton of money, no one ever says shit to you as they assume the turn style messed up or you're just a dumb foreigner.
>> Anonymous
>>51925
No one will assume the turnstyle messed up. If you really look bewildered maybe some will think you're just an idiot tourist. Generally, they'll see you for what you are, a petty thief too cheap too even pay for public transportation. Of course, they won't say anything as they're afraid you don't speak Japanese and communication would be a big mess.

Thanks for ruining it for the rest of us, especially those of us that live here.
>> Anonymous
>>51925
DO NOT DO THIS.

The machines work well enough that people will suspect what you're doing as poster 51934 said. If it fucks up just go over to the station worker by the turnstyles (asking for help in simple English will usually get the message across) or just try a different turnstyle. This happened to me a couple times and reswiping never ended up in a double charge for me. Again, don't be dick foreigner like the other poster and ruin it for the rest of us.
>> Anonymous
>>51934
On my last visit I spent 3 months in the country. I spent about $150 the first 3 weeks by paying. I spent maybe $300 the entire rest of the time. I really don't care as I will always be stared at and profiled during my lifetime in that country anyway.

>>51825
You sir, are nearly spot on.

The building and shops on the two side are Nihonbashi Den-den town, looking to the north
The crab is from the dotonbori (both ends) sitting on top of the Umade sky tower
Universal Studios Japan, Tsutenkaku, Osaka Kaiyukan, and Osaka-jo are all in the back
Kuidaore is in the middle of the street, the Glico man is on the left in Hanshin Tigers uniform
The station in the foreground is Shin-Imamiya, while the one in the back is of an organe Osaka Loop Line train

The only thing I didnt get was that tower with a dish on it pointing towards you.

>> Anonymous
>>52291
Well you're in luck anon. I've gone through Narita immigration before. It was easy as pie. FYI though, they take your finger prints and photo. Didn't take more then 5 min, including standing in line.
>> Anonymous
>>52292
This. It's really no problem, and doesn't even make immigration move any slower than it did before the new security procedures.

Really the only problem is that it's only a matter of time before a stupid government official sells our biometric information to the North Koreans who are holding his pachinko debt.

When you're on a plane with about 300 people its taking an hour.

>>52534
Pro Tip: fill out ALL the customs/immigration forms they give you on the plane so you don't waste time when you get off. I guarantee you that at least 1/3 of the plane will not have not filled out all the forms/fucked up.
