Let's see... I'm originally from Germany, though I don't remember it too well. Currently I live on a small farm in northern Nevada (America). We're about 20 miles from our nearest neighbor and 50 miles from town. The view around our place looks a lot like this in the wintertime, and when it's clear we can sometimes see the northern lights. During summer it's fairly hot and very dry.

The recession is definitely affecting us, but we're still making the bills. We actually left Vegas before the housing market crash because of all the Californians moving into town. Currently wages in Nevada are a little off balance because of the growth, but they'll even out.
I make a trip into Reno about once a month. There's lots of good restaurants, and it's the perfect city for a night owl. Casinos are open all night so there's always someplace to eat or something to do. We generally spend the weekend and spend most of one day just wandering around San Rafael park. Then we'll either spend the next day going to the museums and the galleries around town or we'll go to the Reno Philharmonic. Gas is too expensive for it now, but we used to go for drives around Lake Tahoe in the summer.
As for traveling, I've been all over this state and seen some amazing things. I've also been to California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, New Mexico, Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Michigan, and Nebraska.
The nicest cities I've visited have been New Orleans, Portland, New York, and San Francisco, and Reno. The least tourist friendly were Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, LA, and Seattle.
I'd love to eventually make it to Ireland, back to Germany, France, Poland, Japan, China, and Laos.
