Hello /tv/. This is my 1st time posting in your bored. Well i want to ask some americans some questions. I'm from Australia and i'm 21. I plan to make a trip to the USA at the start of next year.

Now i have a bugdget of $7000 and i want to backpack 80% of the way to save on money. I plan to put most of my money into food. Anyway i wanna know if there are places for backpakers in the US and can you pick up odd jobs like farm work and such if need be.

I do plan to camp alot of the time so i will be bringing camping gear if need by hunting too...

So i plan to start on the West coast and make my way to the East via the south. Is this a good Idea?

What are some of the places i MUST see and some of the places i MUST avoived?
Where is all the good dumb easy pussy at?
Will they let me into pubs with an australian ID only?
Can i drive with an Australian licence?

Here is where i plan to go (pics)
>> Anonymous
>What are some of the places i MUST see and some of the places i MUST avoived?

Avoid any areas with high black/mexican populations. They're basically the equivelant to your lebanese, only not as cocky because we everyone here has a gun.

>Where is all the good dumb easy pussy at?

Bars and Clubs, just like every other country on the planet.

>Will they let me into pubs with an australian ID only?

Fuck if I know. Unless you look like a kid, probably.
>> Anonymous
There are hostels in the US. You might be able to find places on craigslist or something. For jobs, you can probably do day labor shit under the table. Mexicans do it all the time in CA, dunno if you'll get busted and deported somewhere else though...

Ok so stay away from new New Jersey.

Is New Orleans still a giant swimming pool of aids and niggers?

If a cop catches you with a firearm you'd be fucked. We may seem like a big gun toting nation, but fact is, it's alot more regulated nowadays. With all the permits you'd need for each state, it wouldn't be worth it. Just get a knife. Oh, and don't go to the south. It's quite literally ground zero for niggers and Mexicats. And it's not even the laid back intelligent ones, it's where all the ignorany porch drinking, robbing ones are. And watch out if you go hunting. Rednecks are crazy as hell, especially to people with an accent.
>> Anonymous
It will take over a year to finish this trip if you backpack 80% of the time. And that's if you're in good health and are used to long hikes.

With your layout you'd probably end up in the Northern US by the beginning of winter and the South during the summer.

I've got ten bucks on this guy giving up after California.

>Is New Orleans still a giant swimming pool of aids and niggers?
From what I here it's meh. If you're a really big jazz fan or manage to get there around Mardi Gra then it might be worth it to visit.
New Orlean's population now is about the same as the late 19th century if that gives an idea as to what it's like.
>I will i need to get a firearm? i mean i don't want mexicans stealing myshit.
Getting a gun would be more trouble then it's worth. You'll need a firearms liscense in some states and you'll need to register every time you go into a new state that requires registration if you wanna obey the law. Plus some states don't give liscens to foreigners at all.
Just use common sense. If you're still worried about self defense then buy a knife or some pepper spray or something.

How to plot an enjoyable route through the U.S.

If youre a smart person with decent common sense you will have NO problem in America. People aren't as out to steal shit than it looks like on TV...

The deep south states (louisiana, mississippi, alabama) you may want to avoid if you don't want to get a bad look at what America is like. There are plenty of camping sites on your route, you can pick up free maps of them at every rest stop and gas station on your trip (there are many gas stations).

Recommended cities to visit: Los Angeles, San Fransisco, Las Vegas, Houston, Miami, Florida's Atlantic side, Atlanta, Washington D.C., New York City, Philadelphia, Boston, Niagara Falls, Chicago, Madison WI, Minneapolis, Duluth MN, Vancouver and Seattle.

Recommended cities to avoid: Again, deep south states, Oklahoma City, New Jersey, most cities in Ohio, Baltimore, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Indianapolis, and Winnipeg.
>> Anonymous
>>52835

Other recommendations: Realize that the middle portion of the U.S., and Canada for that matter, is absolutely flat. They have corn growing and stuff, but other than that it is deafeningly desolate. Basically west of the Mississippi to about Denver. Bring a knife and maybe some mace for those extreme situations but you don't need a gun. Also, you wouldn't be able to get one as a foreigner. You will be able to get into clubs and bars just fine with an Australian ID, places don't care what it is, they just care if you are 21. And, while you're at the bar, speak for some girls at the bars; American girls basically drop their panties at an Australian accent, as long as you're not ultra-ugly and dont smell bad. Buy a cell phone with an American cell phone company, you will get better service everywhere and it helps in case you ever need emergency or help.

Hmm, cant think of anything else right now... i guess just realize that everything in America is based on the engine; cars, planes, buses, everything, so you shouldnt have trouble finding cheap bus trips when you need to go long distances.

Good luck!

>>52836
Yeah i planed too get myself a cell phone while i was over there just incase somthing did happen. I'm glad to see they will let me into bars and what not with an australian ID. Over here they use ID scanners so you basicly need an australian ID or your not going anywhere.

Thanks for the heads up. The middel kinda sounds real boring but i didn't plan on going there anyway. It seem all the good palces are on the coast.

As an American who has lived in Kansas, New Orleans and currently Los Angeles, I can tell you the following:

Only visit California, Flordia, New York, and Washington DC, if you want to get the most out of your trip. Only visit New Orleans if it's Mardi Gras (easy pussy), otherwise that place is plagued with homeless, niggers and homeless niggers.

The midwest and southern states (with the exception of Flordia) are NOT worth going to, unless you fancy seeing everything that America is stereotyped for: Fat dumb rednecks etc etc. Believe me, there is nothing exciting there

Is this a joke

You don't backpack with 7000 dollars LOL
That defeats the entire point

Take about a thousand and only take that much if you are an unresourceful pathetic SOB

Hitchhike instead of public transport (you'll see things you would never see, meet interesting people, ect) trust me, just use your common sense, it seems most people are lacking these days

Bring a knife for protection a 3-4 inch folding knife is legal almost every

You aren't going to need day labor with 7 fucking thousand dollars unless you are a 500 pound mofo that eats like a cow

If you bring a thousand then you won't need labor, if you hitchike and have adequate social skills then people will let you stay in their hosues or feed you most of the time ( people that pick up hitchers are really generous, I've had some even give me money and shit)

Money is only a tool, if you can sing, play music, make things, you can sell your services whether it be busking or what-have-you

Remember take alittle food with you that lasts awhile, you don't need to eat every day. The lighter the better, get a good pack. Alittle bit of food should last you a long time, don't eat much at a time.

Also why do you want to come here. This is one of the fucking worst places to go. Especially to foreigners. You should stick to Canada, it's pretty much better in every way.

Just don't look like a creep and there will be no problems. Smile and make eye contact. Don't smell.

And no carrying around 7000 dollars in America is not a good idea, unless you don't care about it.

i would travel by greyhound, which is the best our public transport has. Srsly. Most Citys have "nice parts" which are normally around the university. I live in the most violent city in America, which is Memphis, and i never have problems. But you just have to find out where to go.

I would recommend Austin, really tight city.

Seconded. Don't backpack through central california though, it's a shithole (literally) and everyone is illegal/ speaks spanish. Go Pacific Coast Highway.

Texas is like Australia, me thinks. Cowboys, hot, a shoreline(?), white people, but it's more rural.

As for the rest I don't know. Memphis, Atlanta, Florida are, from what I hear are good picks for the South.
Washington DC, New York, good.
How about go from Toronto to Chicago directly? I don't know how, but yeah. Vancouver is pretty awesome btw.

1: The money is there only if a really really need it. i Don't plan on going over my $2000 budget and i'm not going to carry it around with me, fuck that..

2: See above

3: Well that dose sound like a much better idea, i mean the thing is about meeting people too and depending on who you meet you might be able to "acquire" some normaly unatanable items.

4: Well i have to buy one when i get to the states as it's going to look really bad if i pack one in my bag and put it on a plane

5: No, i'm quite fit and i don't eat like a pig.

6: I'm sure that would be the case but i'm not so trusting to people . I mean it's a nation where over half the population own fire arms or some shit like that so i don't want some guy to kill me and eat me.

7: "Snake. We're not tools of the government, or anyone else. Fighting was the only thing... the only thing I was good at. But... at least I always fought for what I believed in." i can't do shit other than build shit with wood... anybody want a cupbored?

8: Plan to take ration packs acctruly, i have shit loads of rat packs i stole from the army... at lest 20 or 30. So i will be taking 5 or 6 with me on my trip. Each 24 pack last me about 2 or 3 days.

9: I'll answer your question with a question. Why do people do alot of things?. I'll find out if canada is better in my own way

10: can't be a backpacker if i don't smell.

11: Gotta be stupid to carry that sorta money around... unless i was like some rich guy like.... some rich guy

Better than WWOOFing. At least, there are a lot more options available other than just farm work. When you do hit up Seattle/Washington you shouldn't avoid eastern Wa entirely. It may be a lot of desert, but there are some truly stunning geophysical landmarks. I highly suggest checking out Dry Falls. You can't appreciate it until you're there...

In central Washington, on the opposite side of the Upper Grand Coulee from the Columbia River, and at the head of the Lower Grand Coulee, resides a three and a half mile crescent-shaped precipice known as Dry Falls. Ten times the size of Niagara, Dry Falls is thought to be the greatest known waterfall that ever existed. Geologists speculate that during the last ice age catastrophic flooding channeled water at 65 miles per hour through the Upper Grand Coulee and over this 400-foot (120 m) rock face. At this time, it is estimated that the flow of the falls was ten times the current flow of all the rivers in the world combined.

When you ARE in western Washington, make sure to travel up and down the Puget Sound. Do some Ferry hopping around the San Juan Islands (I know at least one place through help exchange on Lopez Island that you could stay) to really take in the beauty of the region. Someone mentioned the North Cascade park, which is also another great example of the area.

If you follow OP plan:

1.) You're spending entirely too much time in California. Do see the Oregon Coast though.
2.) You're bypassing some serious awesomeness by not seeing the SouthWest. Southern Utah is unbelievably cool, and really friendly to your type of travel. Canyonlands NP and Zion are the top 2.
3.) SanAntonio is the only thing in Texas worth seeing.
4.) Good call on seeing Memphis and the south. I'd trade-in Atlanta and see New Orleans instead.
5.) Instead of seeing Florida go backpacking through the southern appalachian mts. (GA, SC, NC, TN)

You can get a 6 month tourist visa, but this requires an interview and fee at the American Embassy in your country. They rarely give those 6 month visas out to countries participating in the VWP Program (this includes Australia) so unless you can come up with a better excuse than "I want to stay longer than 3 months" then they'll just deny and say use the VWP. Plus you'll need to show funds that you'll be able to support yourself for 6 months (you can't work legally so you can't say you'll do oddjobs) and they like you to have a fixed address of where you're staying for the first night, "camping somewhere" wont cut it. Also prepare a good trip plan for the guys at the embassy and the immigration officer at San Fran Airport who stamps your passport because you'll get asked a bunch of questions about your trip.

i just did an 11000 mile roadtrip across 30+ states, check out the national parks for sure, the east coast is hard to get pussy, your id should work, but it is always bouncers discretion. passport might work better. most of the west is pretty fucking barren, don't rely on hiking around, know that hitchhiking is illegal in places like nevada. the south is nasty and humid if you are not used to it, your balls stick to your legs like no other.

after the 3 months, leave for canada for a few months, checking out the eastern part, ontariia, all that good shit, renew papers for another few months, enjoy. california is set, check out lake tahoe, yosemite and the coast north of LA, south of SF. colorada is fucking awesome, pikes peak is a must. a road that takes tou over 14000 feet on top of the mountain, there is half the oxygen up there compared to sealevel, midwest is boring, don't do anything stupid. chicago is a fucking strange place, huge, illinois sucks, tons of niggers. the east really sucks during winter. no camping in the east really. too much regulation. it is all private property too. check out yellowstone in wyoming. vermont is pretty rad, no gun laws really, washington dc is really amazing, check out mt vernon.

This journey was made three months ago, by a youtuber called Thunderf00t. That's right, the only thread about travel on this board right now is a LIE.

ok, so.
Probably a troll, but i have advice for yourself or others who would attempt "backpacking" anywhere.

i knew a guy who walked from southern texas to california to minnesota (where i am currently located). he informed me that if you walk into random places (read: mc.donalds) and say "i just walked/hitchhiked from X to Y (Y=current location; must also look or smell like shit for effect) and i have no money. if you would be so kind as to help me out a little it would be much appreciated." because we all know those mc.donalds faggot employees (no offense you burger flipping cocknuggets) get free food all the time and grow into whales.

[the following half is biased as i am a militaryfag]
/fair warning.
Secondly, find army surplus stores.
buy Meal-ready-to-eats. they are nutritious and dont always taste like shit (avoid vegetarian MREs as they taste like dogshit thats been roasting in the sun)
i also suggest the standard ACU boots which are comfortable (after broken in, before broken in they will cause incredibly painful blisters) and will last you for a long time (the full ACU is also incredibly well made and a second hand ACU costs about 120$ which is 149.70 in ausfailia).

places of interest:
1. Seattle
2. St.paul/Minneapolis [biased]
3. new york [although it smells like piss and in general blows. but will blow your mind because of the sheer mind-shattering size of the city.]
4. Disney-fucking-land
5. City 17 (because im out of places and no one likes a top 4 list)

in general, being an Amerikkkan i mean this 100%, America sucks. you'd be better off camping in your backyard and playing with the kangaroos and koalas.

Protip : not everyone is a troll, even on the Internet, I don't see what besides 'internet lol' makes this a troll. Instead of pointing at random people and saying 'troll!', give a decent reason to think so.

>Protip : everyone is a troll on the Internet. I can clearly see what, including 'internet lol', makes this a troll. i love pointing at random people and saying 'troll!'

Fixed.

Protip: this is the internet. pointing at random people and saying troll [although i had not pointed.] is a regular occurrence.

You must come to Austin, Texas. It is a major city for young adults. Our music is bitching, and there is always a party somewhere. We do our best to support small businesses, rather than take the easy route of big name stores.
TL;DR - Austin is awesome and there are awesome people in it. Come visit.
