Propaganda Village. A village the north built along the border that no one lives in. Up until 2004 they blared propaganda across a building sized speaker that told people to defect to the paradise town. The flag you see in the pic weighs 60 lbs. Sorry for the haze, it was foggy over here today.

Lastly.. the Bridge of No Return. The bridge they built to resemble in Die Another Day. The last people to walk across it were the members of the USS Publeo in Dec of 1968.

Strange. I thought there were always three North Koreans standing right at the border there and watching it and each other. That's what they showed in the National Geographic documentary anyway.

tell that to the thousands of north Koreans who flee to china every year. you see the south Koreans facing the north Korean side in my photo right? there weren't any north Koreans out besides the one guy but half the time they stand facing their own buildings ever since a defector made it across the middle line. its just as bad as most people think.people starving and cut off from half their family in the south..there is a gigantic building built just behind where I took that photo that was supposed to be used for family visitations but it stands empty every day, a 3 story marble and granite reminder with empty tables and chairs because the north will not allow anyone to go across the border. tell my bosses dad it isn't that bad when he hasn't heard from his family and presumes them dead. tell it to the 80 year old woman i met who was crying at the nearest train station north because it was as close as she'd ever get to the family she once had.

you ignorant fuck.
>> Anonymous
op here again... gonna post some other photos taken by the people i was there with. you are not allowed to make any gestures or try to communicate with the northern guards on any side because they will turn it into propaganda against the ROK and the US... much less write anything somewhere. there are about 8 ROK soldiers and one American with the group, not including the ones who actually stand at the border. you've also got an armed escort truck that drives in front of your vehicle.

How many NK actually make it into China? I was under the impression that the Chinese try to discourage refugees because they don't want to deal with them.
>> Anonymous
>>71266
Alot. They do discourage it because its taxing on China, but they don't send them back. They just try to put more pressure on NK to keep them inside. China is the gateway.. I know of one south korean who goes to school here, but hes from the north. They send important peoples children to china for school and he escaped back to South Korea and goes to school here now. he says he cant go back because he knows they'll execute him, and he doesn't know what happened to his father, who was some govt official.

the last rail station before north korea that no one uses. the hope is that when the north joins the rest of the world it will be used. personally I think the ROK built it to have a very easy way to transport troops and equipment to the front line if they ever needed to.

Despite the great poverty in that country, the literacy rate, education level, and percentage of people holding college degrees is one of the highest in the world.

The country is far from perfect but it is much better than our western democracies.

We hear a lot of contradictory claims about the DPRK. Like the DPRK government is both all pervasive, the most well consolidated nation state in the world perhaps, and yet it's on the brink of collapse. If the DPRK were on the brink of collapse would everyone in Pyongang be a puppet theater actor to regime? The DPRK is a backwards nation with mass starvation...but its technologically and industrial sophisticated to the point of nuclear weaponry and ICBMs and space flight. How many other backwards, starving nations do you think can make nuclear weapons and put satellites into orbit...because it requires a bit more then starving rice farmers to do that.

they dont have any of the things you listed, except for the starving people. they have the capability for the things like the nukes and ICBM, but they pretty much hold family members of scientists hostage which doesn't exactly build the best of confidence. Also the majority of the population in north korea doesn't even go to school. Only if you actually work within the government. Most people are farmers desperately trying to pump out more food for the nation. I don't know if you guys are just trolling or if its what you actually believe.
