Going to Japan for about 8 nights Anonymous
4chan,

I'm going to Japan for about 8 nights, and I have a few logistical questions as I havent quite planned everything out yet.

Assuming I arrive at Kyoto from Narita Airport at 8:00 PM, are there local trains and buses that still operate?

What's a neat place to visit around Kyoto on a Monday (assuming everything is closed on a Monday)?

What's the best way to manage money?

Is it worth (or safe enough) to lug a laptop around, or should I just use internet cafes? Would American USB devices get fried in Japanese computers?

Oh, and I meant manage money, in the sense of currency exchanges, what's a secure amount of cash to carry on hand at a time, etc. . .

just use ATMs, they give decent rates. about 10,000 yen at a time.

No joke, I ruined a USB thumbdrive at a Philippine internet cafe because of the voltage.

Wait.. you're going to Kyoto but arriving in Narita? Prepare to take a bullet train, anon. Narita (just outside fucking Tokyo) is about 300 miles from Kyoto, so local trains and buses are out of the question, unless you have your airports confused, in which case I hope you haven't already purchased your airfare. If you are in fact going from Narita to Kyoto, you'll need to take the Narita Express train to the main Tokyo station, then from Tokyo catch a bullet train to Kyoto.

Exchange your currency BEFORE leaving the States. Keep a couple hundred in yen on you. Your Mastercard/Visa will work in most ATM's. Carry some American that you can convert when you're there if need be. It's plenty safe to carry your laptop around, that is of course if you feel like lugging it everywhere.

Yes, I have a JR rail pass, so I plan to bullet to Kyoto. I actually meant to ask if local buses and trains in Kyoto operate late, so I would be able to find/arrive at hostels and such around nighttime.

No your card will pretty much only work inside of stores, 7-11 ATMs and Citibank ATMs. Your card will NOT work at Japanese banks.

True, except scratch stores. Almost next to none, and add Postal offices. I hate Citibank with a passion but I was thankful for their scattered few ATMs. Thank you Shittybank.
I love the Japanese pronunciation so much <3

You better make a run for the Narita Express for Tokyo, then transfer onto the Shinkansen for Kyoto.

Alternatively, you could have flown in to Kansai International and taken the Haruka Limited Express straight to Kyoto.

Not the case, depends on each individual attraction.

Take ALL cash, dont fuck around with bank cards, cash advances, or that sort of shit.
