Is there anything cool to go, do, or see in orange county besides Disneyland? This place sucks
>> Anonymous
An orange farm?
>> Anonymous
Huntington Beach, Dana Point, Knott's Berry Farm (more fun than it sounds and the chicken is fucking awesome.) Lots of bars playing some decent local bands... Downtown Fullerton comes to mind. If you're into malls there are plenty of those. The Pacific Coast Highway is a nice drive, and Woody's sells fucking delicious food.

Personally I find LA County more exciting for obvious reasons (it's fucking Los Angeles.) If you're into fish and/or ocean conservation, see the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach.

Samefag here. I'd like to add that with all these spoiled, rich fucking assholes from other states moving to Orange County simply for the name (Real Housewives bullshit) ruined the place. Stay away from Yorba Linda. Nothing really there unless you're into the hard-to-find Indian Cemetary and Richard Nixon.

hey i live in orange county!

go to the buena park mall, its the most amazing mall in the area. not to far from disney land, they have everything there. you can spend hours in there just looking at all the stuff they have everywhere.

Orange County born and raised anon here. Agreeing with OP.

But I know the place well and can laundry list a bunch of places sorta-maybe-quasi worth thinking about possibly visiting as I think of them.

Nightlife:
Kitsch Bar in Costa Mesa.
Detroit Bar in another further away part of Costa Mesa if you're a HDSHFF (hipster douchebag shit head fuck face)
Gypsy Den and the neighboring arts district if you're an HDSHFF seeking bohemian cred by hanging out in a tiny gentrified oasis amongst struggling hispanic immigrants.
Huntington Beach main street and pier if you're a bro with a nautical star tattoo.

Food:
Cha Thai in a drab strip mall in Orange. Use Google street view. It's easy to miss. Thai
Kaffa in another drab strip mall in Orange. Coffee
Greek Garden Grill a few doors down from Kaffa. Greek

All the best places to eat are hole-in-the-walls.

Weeaboo:
Camelot Golfland in Anaheim if you're a /v/fag. The only worthwhile arcade in the area. Lots of kids, kiddie decor, may feel out of place if you're old.
Kinokuniya in Costa Mesa, a Japanese bookstore chain with walls of animu/mango/yaoi/figures/art books in the original language.
Mitsuwa in another part of Costa Mesa for another bookstore and groceries.

Consult Google and Yelp for further details.

I haven't been there because I'm an uncultured caveman but I hear good things about the Bowers Museum in Santa Ana.
South Coast Plaza is an incredibly posh, high-fashion mall in Costa Mesa full of beautiful, immaculately clean clothing stores which are totally empty because few people have that kind of disposable income to blow on looking swank and the economy's shitty.
Fry's Electronics in Anaheim about a block away from camelot for /g/ people. Competitive with newegg.
California Wok in Costa Mesa for Americanized Chinese. Order the Singapore rice noodles. Shit owns and is cheap and will fill you the fuck up.
Across the street from California Wok is ChaYa which is a so-so net cafe run by by FOB Japanese and Weeaboos and has an expensive manga library. Closes much later than other places like it (1 or 2AM depending on the day)

I also live in OC, blackstar canyon is pretty cool/ scary at night, not much to do there though. If you take blackstar road till the end and turn left, there is a church about a mile up the road.
also irvine lake and el toro airbase can be cool to explore

Places that suck. Anti-recommendations:
Irvine Spectrum in Irvine.
The District which is technically in Tustin but pretty much on the border with Irvine.
The Block in Orange.
Anaheim Gardenwalk in Anaheim.

>Samefag here. I'd like to add that with all these spoiled, rich fucking assholes from other states moving to Orange County simply for the name (Real Housewives bullshit) ruined the place.
Disagreed. Orange was always this boring long before TV put their spotlight on us.

House of Blues at Downtown Disney if you have conventional, old-fashioned taste in music. You don't need a pass to Disneyland. Downtown Disney is an outdoor mall adjacent to Disneyland the theme park with no admission fee. Unremarkable except for the aforementioned House of Blues.

wow, you're a douchebag.

the buena park mall sucks. Don't go there. they have a boba place, like 6 stores, and a movie theater. On and a walmart connected right to the mall, because that's not ghetto in Buena Park. That's class...

I agree with the block sucking (only redeeming thing is the dave and busters, because who doesn't like playing games when you're buttfuck drunk) because it's full of kids, but the spectrum is fun. I mean, I only really like it because it has a yardhouse and a million different kinds of beer...but hey, that's not bad. Then you can walk around piss drunk and look around the shops.

More fun stuff to do:
old town pasadena - bars, clubs, shopping - not technically orange county i think, but pretty close

downtown fullerton - again, clubs, bars, etc. It's not that nice but it's pretty happening. go to ziings or something.

Downtown brea is alright, but only for hanging out. there's not much to do there.

downtown fullerton in the daytime is a nice place to look around too, there's a few nice cafes and vintage shops, antique shops, etc.

if you're a punk, head over to fullerton trainstation on friday/saturday nights. I dont know why, but they hang out over there in droves. Ask for a man named Chaos from Texas. be gentle, he scary.

fry's sucks, they are not competitive with newegg. If by competitive, you mean, bending you over and shoveling a large orange (heh heh, I made a pun, its orange county, heh heh.) up your ass and then taking your wallet. Then yes, fry's electronics is competitive with newegg... BTW, oranges plus anus, makes nicer smelling poo, so maybe fry's isn't a bad idea.

OP here, thanks for all the ideas, I'm gonna check some of those places out this month. The Bowers Museum looks interesting. Are there any cool places besides commerical things?

This is more along the lines of what I was thinking.

In that case, check out newport back bay, it's very naturey.

also the aquarium of the pacific in long beach is fun.

Downtown fullerton is cool in the smalltown antique shops and random museums way.

South coast plaza is really nice and there's some fun things to do at the mall there. There's also the 'other' mall which has really nice restaurants. I forgot the name of it, but it's generally known as the anti-mall. Retarded because it's still basically a mall. it has this really cool restaurant called Cat and the Custard Cup~

The Opera Pacific if you like music -

Laguna Lake if you like taking walks around dirty lake water (but it's nice and naturey)

There are lots of nature hikes and trails in Fullerton . You'll usually see wooden signs when you're driving around.

There's also an equestrian center there, so you could go horseback riding.

Balboa Peninsula. Go there, stay there.

I know I am a total nerd.. but

MIDEVAL TIMES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and if you go to Knots right after Disneyland you will know where that extra admission fee goes.

I spent the first half of m life in that area, and thats all I got for ya. The best times I ever had in LA were concerts. if you do some research you can find major bands playing for kicks or special events in tiny little joints.

California Adventure
Knott's Berry Farm

If you are willing to leave orange county then there is Universal Studios Hollywood and Six Flags Magic Mountain not too far away.

well, there's The Lab, and The Camp right across from it right there on Bristol. Both are mega-trendy though, since there's an Urban Outfitters just about everywhere now.

As for activities, raised in Orange County ( San Clemente, Mission Viejo, live in Irvine now) and i've done just about everything the county has to offer. I surf (in b4 brofist) and it's definitely something to check out if you have never done so. You can usually hit up a surf shop for a board rental and a teacher. Do that like around San Clemente, Laguna Beach, and some parts of Huntington Beach. I would not suggest surfing in Dana Point unless you want to get sick or ride shitty 1 foot waves, Newport Beach because you'll spend at least 30 minutes finding a parking spot and another 15 minutes hoofing your way to the beach. Huntington Beach is alright at times, but most often then not the water is polluted or the other surfers are real cocks.

If you're an outdoorsy fellow, Casper Park is an excellent place when it's not being overtaken by mountain lions, and if you drive up Ortega Highway you can find lots of really bitchin places to stop at, hike and explore. There's great trails in Irvine, Rancho Santa Margarita, Trabuco Canyon, Mojeska Canyon, and Huntington Beach to bike/hike as well.

A cruise up PCH is fine too. And the Great balloon ride at the Irvine Park is interesting.

Neat little museums and things of that nature are Bower's, and the Museum of Science that's a couple blocks away from that. Mission San Juan Capistrano is a pretty odd place, and the old ass boat that's in Dana Point is interesting.

Can always take a boat to Catalina island too. Great place to spend a weekend.

Other places that are enjoyable is The Irvine Spectrum, just for its sheer size and so many damned stores, Downtown Disney, Camelot Arcade, San Clemente Pier which has THE best happy hour in the county. or you can always say fuck it and take a train to LA, San Diego or Central Coast
