CHINA CHINA CHIIIIINA Anonymous
Let's talk about China, /trv/. I was just there for six weeks on a tour. Now the tour has been put on a temporary hiatus, so I'm back in the US and have been given the opportunity to prepare for the next 7 months of the tour with a little prior knowledge under my belt. ITT I shall post what I'm going to do to prepare. Perhaps it'll be useful to someone.

tl;dr what I'll need/want in mainland China.

1) Get a better 220V to 110V transformer. The cheap Walmart shitpile that I purchased prior to my trip burned out within days, taking a toothbrush charger and router power supply with it. I'd really like to upgrade to something solid, heavy-duty, and perhaps even adjustable (since Chinese power can vary from 210 to 240 based on where you are, god bless that country).
>> (op) Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
2) Solve my laundry dilemma. Washing clothes in China is fucking hard. Launder mats don't fucking exist, and hotels charge/rape you for all you've got. I'm okay with washing my clothes in the sink or bathtub, but using that method they will take three to four days to dry. My solution after a small amount of research: buy a spinner. It'll take the wet clothes and spin the water out of them, and then they'll dry in a reasonable amount of time.
>> (op) Anonymous

2a) This thing DOES look intriguing, and maybe it would be much easier than washing in the sink. However, I have limited space in my luggage. Perhaps it will be an unrealized dream.
>> (op) Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
3) While I'm here in the land of (relatively) uncensored Internet access, I shall spend my time researching methods for bypassing the oh-so-irritating firewall that's in place there. It's very difficult to look at p0rn, and sometimes I wondered if my e-mails were always getting through to their destinations (or maybe my friends were just assholes).

Currently, I use a secure tunnel to keep the wordfilters and other shit at bay. However, bouncing packets to Britain (or wherever they choose to go) and back means that I deal with a significant amount of lag.

For some reason, 4chan has never been blocked, despite the high occurance of keywords and undesirable content. Could that be because I'm the ONLY fag in China accessing it? I would like to think not. This is a mystery I hope to solve. Why would they block Wikipedia, but not a free-for-all message board?
>> (op) Anonymous
Get a good English-Pinyin dictionary. I should have thought of this before, but I wasn't even sure what Pinyin WAS before I went to China.
>> (op) Anonymous
5) Buy a fan. Air conditioning is iffy at best, and is usually confined to a very warm and humid setting. I can't set it to the 60 F ideal that I'd like when it's hot outside.
>> Anonymous
>>25413
HOLY SHIT, 4chan isn't blocked? I'm a Chinafag and I didn't even know that. Next time I go back I'm soo getting on 4chan.
>> Anonymous
>>25417
It was never blocked where I was...although I was always staying in Western hotels which are supposedly subject to less restrictions than the general populace.

But if it truly has been overlooked, then it's every Chinafag's duty to make sure he uses some sort of protection to keep the authorities from finding out and issuing a blanket ban (like they do with most blogging sites).

>>25417
I do have to say that it's great to be able to go on 4chan after a long day of being frustrated and culture-shocked. Like coming home to your mother who rapes you.

Oh hell naw, f china, why would you tour there?

Don't go back, they might disappear you.

Like it or not, China will be the new superpower. As far as visiting goes, if you want to see the real China, don't stay in western hotels and visit as many markets as possible.

No, they won't. You stupid faggots said this 50 years ago and it still hasn't come true. Every country in the world exploits China. If suddenly, they were to raise prices in the hopes of actually making something of themselves, the countries would just go somewhere else.
>> Anonymous
>>25811
50 years ago? Mate, China has only been recognized as a contender for superpower in the past decade or so (and a country doesn't just turn into a superpower overnight). Before that it was pretty much closed off from the rest of the world. Now that it is finally opening up to the rest of the world, it's definitely looking like a challenge to the US.
>> Anonymous
>>25811
yea except america and a lot fo other countries owe massive amounts of money to china, so china sort of has the economic upper hand

but lets not turn this thread into yet another political shitstorm about china

who cares who is a superpower, you're not in the charge of the governments there are you? the only thing that matters is standard of living not SUPERIOR ARMY AND MISSILES AHHHH
>> Anonymous
>>25811
China won't be "the" superpower ever.

What you might expect to happen is a couple to 4 superpowers arising and maintaining their status. Those being the US, Russia (maybe), the EU (if they form a more cohesive union) and China.

Exactly India will likely be number 1, when that happens the US will likely freak the fuck out and either
A) collapse
B) acctually transform into a much better country, not so intent on being number one. politicians may acctually be held responsible again.

OP here, hells yea. I loved asian girls before I went to China, and now I like them even more. Once you can get them past the sexual hang-ups put in place by their culture, they are really fucking open. Non-christian-based-country = epic win.

Well...I can't drink the water out of the faucets, which is pretty gay in comparison to the US. But in the US, I can't go anywhere (especially hitchhiking) without running the risk of being thrown into a cell in someone's basement and raped until I die.

I don't see India's government as being able to handle world power status. But that could literally change overnight.
>> Anonymous
>>25837
fine. "a" superpower, that owns 90% of the foreign debt accrued by the "other" superpowers. do the math.
>> Anonymous
>>25888

India will be economically powerful in the future, but there's no way they'll be as strong as China. What I'm basing this on:

-Right now, their economy is almost three times smaller than China's.

-China's Gross Domestic Product per capita is almost twice that of India's.

-Most importantly, the economic growth rate of China has been about 11% each year, compared to India's growth of 8% (which is still very good).

The only wild card could be China's insistence on retaining a Communist government holding them back somehow. Also, India's population is projected to pass China's sometime this century, so there's that.

They have the oppression associated with stalinism, but without even pretending to have any obligation to the people. It is the perfect application of state capitalism.

lrn2/economics

Who buys china's cheap shit?

yeah, that's right, amerikkka. China wants to stop playing nice with amerikka? Fine. Economic sanctions. Want your money back? Fine. Cause the great depression 2.0.

India is a good contender for a strong nation, ala France. Can't see it being a superpower.

The US is still going to be strong. Look at the motherfucking Roman Empire; shit lasted well over 1000 years, and even after Rome was pillaged and Byzantium was formed, it survived until it was raped by Venice and then Ottomans.

>>25924

India is a democratic country, in culture and politics.

China believes the world belongs to it and that everybody else is wrong, no matter what the situaiton.

China has been making our socks since forever. Remember their "great leap forward"? Good job, fags. Way to land yourselves ass-backwards. It's been 60 years since the communists and japanese ousted the Kuomintang, and they have nothing to show for it.

What, fancy buildings? Lebanon had more per sq/km before the civil war. Businesses? China has none. They are, for the most part, foreign interests that bitch around small chinese holdings.

The japanese are a culture we all love and hate. When the japanese come to visit they spend tons of money. Of course they're xenophobic, that's fine. The indians are a loving culture even if they're very weird to eurofags/NAs. The chinese? They come with their own food and don't spend a dime.

fine, cocksuck. if you DON'T live in a state that's made hitchhiking illegal, please go to your local interstate at night and start hitching your way across the country. if you make it to the opposite coast and back, I would be very surprised if you didn't have a ruptured colon, a stolen wallet, or a tombstone. fucking nobody hitchhikes in amerikkka anymore. fucking nobody does anything because we're a nation that's well known for a healthy population of sick, sick serial killers and psychopaths. most "well-developed" countries seem to be turning out this way.

China (and eventually India) will definitely become the worlds leading economies within the next century. However, that said, there is a difference between "superpower" and "economic superpower". There will still remain only two countries powerful enough to destroy every major city and every living creature in both India and China, and those countries are neither India nor China.

Well, I find that the government in China leaves me alone if they leave me alone. It's entirely possible to lead a perfectly normal, free life if you're not starting anti-government protests, fucking around in Tibet, or doing highly illegal things.

While I'm certainly free from government persecution in the US if I want to do some of those things, I'm NOT free from persecution from other people. So here's the breakdown:

1) In China, fear retribution by the government for doing pretty extreme things.

2) In America, fear retribution by hicks for doing pretty tame things.

I'd say that it comes out to be about equal for me. Plus, I see that the American freedoms are getting eroded on a daily basis.
>> Anonymous
>Plus, I see that the American freedoms are getting eroded on a daily basis.

The chinese government recently attacked the US about human rights (torture, death penalty, illegal invasion of Iraq, illegal detainment of anybody they claim could be a terrorist, and so on). And Bush just had to shut up, because the Chinese were right.

After the OP's posts, it got all Tl;Dr - but I'll comment a bit anyway.

4Chan is not blocked in China. Wikipedia is blocked on/off, mostly blocked. I know since I write from Zhangjiang ATM.

The hotels have crazy laundry prices, but you don't need to drag a washing machine with you either. Most hotels have a cheap Chinese laundry next to it. It's the shop with clothes hanging inside. Drag your bag of dirty clothes there and they'll be ready the next day. For a fraction of the price - and the hotel likely uses the same shop anyway to save money.

Just go to Taipei or Singapore. Much cleaner, and it’s not a royal hassle to wash clothes or buy forex.

OP here...yeah, the problem that I had with the laundry places was that I didn't have enough clothes to survive those 1-2 days. I'm just going to pack more clothes for the return trip.

But I have found that my socks always return feeling weird from Chinese laundry.
