US Immigration/Visas Anonymous
Britfag here. For the past four years I've been in an e-lationship with with an Amerikkkan girl. We've both flown over to eachother's countries and now we want to be together for more than a few weeks of a time - ie: permanantly.

Despite the fact that it's almost infinitely easier to get her into the UK where we'd get free health care and higher pay for the same jobs, we've decided that I should go over there (for the time being atleast) mainly because her parents are far less fucking annoying than mine, and they seem to like me a lot more than my parents like her.

Now, down to business. We see two ways in:
1. Get married.
2. Get a work visa by through working for her father's small business. Answering phones and doing finances isn't exactly my life long career aspirations, but it's fine just to get me into the country and tide me over until I can find work elsewhere. Whatever.

So, Anon: Does anyone else have experience/knowledge of getting into the US?
Which of my two options presented there is the easiest?
What forms should I be filling out?

Plz 2 be halping, because one look at http://www.uscis.gov confuses the fuck out of me and makes me feel like some dirty spic trying to take your jobs, when all I really want to do is bone my girlfriend.

America sucks! Why do you want to go to America. Is your girlfriend over 200 lbs.?

105, maybe.

America doesn't suck an more or less than Britain, in my opinion. Infact the thing that pisses me off most about it is the fact that the fucking speed limit is only 55 MPH as opposed to 70. WHAT. THE. FUCK.

You're a fuckin sellout, grow sum bollocks and tell this bitch to come back to the motherland.

Ten years ago I did the same thing you're trying to do now. You need a K1 visa (http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/types/types_2994.html).

Have plenty of documentation showing that you've been together for some time (printed photos with dates on them really help here).

Once you enter on the K1 Visa, you'll have 90 days to get married, then you can file for permanent resident status. Don't leave the US once you come in on the K1 Visa, you won't be allowed to return without refiling.

File your I756 form as soon as you can, that'll be your work permit until your green card application (I551) goes through (mine took 2+ years). Green cards are good for 10 years and can be renewed almost indefinitely.

Be prepared for grilling sessions at Grosvenor Square and a rather impersonal medical exam.

Beware though, the US Government can revoke the Green Card system at any time, which means you'll be heading home asap. Advice is if you want to stay, apply for citizenship.

This.

It depends on where you are. Some places it's 70. And near those places where the speed limit changes to 55, everyone still goes 70. And then in places where it's actually 55, well those places suck.

And fuck that Senator that wants to make 55mph the national speed limit.

'Be prepared for grilling sessions at Grosvenor Square and a rather impersonal medical exam.' sounds truely horrid. Also, congrats on posting the first helpful reply.

Believe me, I would rather have her here.

I suggest getting a visa through marriage. My mom brought over her new husband recently, and since theirs wasn't a sham relationship, there was a lot of paperwork but relatively straightforward compared to other visas.

OP here again.

I don't see an I-756, but I-765 looks to be the thing you're talking about. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=73ddd59c

If I get a K1 Visa, fly over and get married as fast as I can, and then immediately file this form, am I going to get the permit before the 90 days is up, or am I going to get shipped back home and then have a work permit land on my doorstep just to piss me off and make me shell out on yet another plane ticket?

Get married. Document everything. Combine your assets so it looks like you are together. Leave a paper trail so INS can ensure that your girlfriend isn't acting like an anchor for immigrants. Do this and it'll be the easiest way to enter the land of the free.

This is a pretty interesting thread.

What region of the US will you guys be living in?
