As someone from South Georgia, I can honestly say that we have our share of Brits down here. It's not unusual to hear a British accent anywhere from Bainbridge to Albany to Valdosta to Savannah...
Also, many Southern accents, since they're derived directly from British accents, still sound a little British. English and Scots/Irish, to be exact. You probably won't impress many folks. At least not in Georgia, Virginia, coastal South Carolina, Tennessee, or Kentucky. Mississippi, Texas, Louisiana, and Alabama might be a different story.
