Hi /trv/
I don't come here too often, I sometimes skim through whilst at work when I have nothing to do just to look at pictures and places. I'm planning on moving to toronto soon, and i'm wondering if there are any torontofags here that could throw me some advice as to what parts of town I should look for a place at and what parts of town to avoid. I've never lived in a big city before, but I've lived in a lot of places. I would actually like to live in the actual city, not in the outer burbs. If you could offer any advice I would appreciate it. I don't know anything about the area or anything, and all I was told was to avoid Markham and Richmond Hill.

What price ranges are looking in, what kind of neighbourhoods are your preferences, what kind of building do you want to live in, etc.

And that picture is fuckin ooold.

Pretty much anywhere in TO is safe, unless you're living in the middle of a project in Rexdale or Scarborough or something...which you wouldn't be. "Clean" can have a pretty broad range of interpretations, but not much of the city is what I'd call clean.

Anyway, the 4 areas I'd recommend with that price range and those preferences in mind are the Gay Village (Church & Wellesley), Yonge & Eglinton, the Annex (Bloor & Bathurst), and pretty much anything along Bloor West, from Bathurst to High Park. I'd post some pictures, but 4chan won't let me, so I'll give a little description of each:

Gay Village: located in the north east of downtown, uhh, it's pretty gay, always cool shit going on there 24 hours a day, with some fairly cheap "commieblock" apartments.

Yonge & Eglinton: A few km north of downtown, but right on the Yonge subway line. Its actually quite an upscale neighbourhood but I've found some reasonably priced apartment towers there. And the hood is decent, plenty of businesses and shit around there.

Annex: Near UofT, just outside downtown on both the Bloor and Spadina subway lines. As such, popular with students. Many awesome Victorian mansions subdivided into cheap apartments. This would be my pick, personally.

Bloor West: I dunno, its decent. Subway runs right along that street, shit you can walk to and such, so..

Torontonians are pretty gay anyway. Even if it were not used in the usual 4chan sense, it would practically be a compliment.

I lived in the annex. Don't rent 203 Brunswick Ave. It's a shitty yellow house that smells like shit and gas. That is all.

Despite that I highly recommend the annex. You barely have to leave the neighbourhood to get anything you need. Plus Lee's Palace and Honest Ed's are awesome. The only major grocery store that I remember was a Dominion and the food was pretty nice.

I came from a town of 1000 and it was awesome living there.
