Winter 2008 Anonymous
Sup /trv/. I have a predicament. My brother and I want to go somewhere this winter between Christmas and New Years. We're from San Diego and want to GTFO from here and see a different type of climate. We've been looking at going to Victoria, British Colombia and some other places in the Pacific Northwest. We've never really been in any really forested areas before and have mainly just stuck to the arid Southwestern US states and Mexico.

Any recommendations would be great.

We're somewhat limited in funds but as long as it's not over $1,200 we're fine.

no one is going to reply to us, comrade.... will we ever escape from our SoCal hovel?

Yea, ok. Victoria's good but expensive. What are you looking for. do you want to ski, roam the mountains, hike or sit on your ass in bars and coffee shops. Answer what you want to do and I'll give you advice on the west coast of canada.

Hopefully a mix of some hiking, exploring the coasts, and a liberal amount of cafes and nightlife sprinkled in.

How about Montreal?

Victoria and BC are really rainy in the winter, not nearly as much snow as other places get. Go to Alberta or Saskatchewan.
Montreal is great too.

Portland, then go skiing at Mt. Hood, drive up to Bellingham, ski at Mt. Baker, goto Vancouver and do some more stuff

Is that $1200 each or total? Have you thought about the Caribbean?

In all seriousness the high AIDs rate, crime, and large levels of niggers makes the Caribbean not that attractive to us.

Levels of HIV/AIDS and crime are relative. If you're from San Diego, sure, I'm certain they would appear high. The rumor that HIV/AIDS is through the roof is half of the reason tourism in Haiti dissolved. As long as you don't walk through shitty areas of town at night or go around with loads of bling, you're not going to get robbed. However, if you're racist, the Caribbean most definitely isn't for you then.

West of the Cascades Oregon gets gentle (often misty) rain but you almost never see an umbrella. A hoodie is the raingear of choice.
Snow is a short drive away and Hood & Timberline lodge are beautiful.
Seattle to the north and Mt. Rainier.......

If you get to Portland drive into the Gorge of the Columbia. Beautiful!

Victoria, BC is downright magical at Christmas time. It's so pretty. I've been there several times and I highly recommend it.

I also love Chicago during Christmas, especially downtown. They go crazy decorating the store windows, Christmas lights all over the city, and if it has snowed it's like something out of a movie. Very festive and you can't beat the shopping.

Northern Indiana is great in December and January. We have temperature fluctuations from 75* to -15* on a weekly basis. It kicks ass!
