So, in a few years i'll be graduating college with a BA in Theatre. I was thinking of moving to LA like every other person trying to make it, providing I don't get an apprentice program or a college willing to pay for my MFA. I was hoping to know any tips I could use so I don't look like every other douchebad wannabe actor before I go out there.

Also, is there any other towns besides NYC and Chicago where I could get a decent start in acting and theatre? I was hoping to save money and not pay out my ass for rent on my box.

Don't move here if you don't already like LA, there are enough dumbfucks who move here because they feel like they "have to," to work in the industry, then BAWWWWWWW and complain about how much they hate the city to anyone who will listen. I hate those people.

LA rent is expensive as hell, though not as expensive as say NYC or SF, but consider again that you will NEED a car to get around, and insurance premiums are higher than average, so the cost of living is among the country's highest. Chances are you will need to have a roommate to afford living here when you start out, unless you luck out and find a good deal on a studio apartment in a place that's not in a shithole ghetto in the middle of the SFV.

As for jobs, a lot of actors, working and non-working, work in the industry doing odd jobs as freelancers in post-production, or as production assistants on film and TV shows. These jobs aren't that hard to get usually, especially after you have a few credits under your belt. Most of these jobs pay at least $100 a day, and the work is easy most of the time. But due to the nature of production once a show wraps up after 2-4 months you'll have to find a new one, and it's hard to get work during certain times of the year (end of the year around the holidays especially)

If you're an aspiring actor you should definitely go to Central Casting in Burbank, and sign up for background work. I'm not sure how steady extra work is, but if you're lucky you can pick up SAG referrals as an extra, if you can show the production staff you're a go-getter, or whatever it is they're looking for.

Making it in this town is extremely hard, there are literally hundreds of thousands of young hopefuls all with the same idea as you. You gotta fight for everything, but if you're up to it then I wish you luck. Also if you move here keep an open mind about the place. LA's not the glamorous city you see on TV shows, nor is it a warzone out of Training Day or some shit. It's a cool city to live in once you find your niche. It gets a bad rap from the rest of Americans but it's not a bad place at all once you can afford to live here. I can't think of many better places to live as a young single guy, and it never gets boring living here, even though there's some wacky shit you gotta deal with from time to time...
