Im gonna teach english in asia for a year or two, and Ive narrowed my choices down to Japan, China and Taiwan, although Im still relatively open to Vietnam, Korea and Thailand

Im asking here because its obvious what answer /jp/ would give, so where would you recommend that I go? Note, I don't mind more rural and out of the way places.

The whole H-game cliche of "helping the girl learn English" is so fucking true with Korean girls, and the reciprocal works, too. A friend of mine was in Seoul for a few weeks last year, and the Korean guys he talked to said that the best way to learn Korean was to get a Korean girlfriend.

Japan is superior, but dosen't need any more english teaching faggots

Taiwan is like what chinese people could be if they were civilized and an ally of Japan and Amerikkka

China is full of communism, hype, pollutuion, prejudice, hate, racism, and propaganda

Vietnam has delicious little girls. Also, Viet girls you see here are not necessarily representative.

Korea is full of gooks, delicious BBQ, advanced CDMAids, and cheap shit due to government subsidies propping up the economy

Thailand has delicious ladyboys. If you're into that sort of thing.
>> The /g/tard
Japan.

Never go to either china.

If you're in Taiwan enjoy your mortar fire, if you're in PRC enjoy your cancer.

Vietnam and Korea I don't know. Thailand is iffy to be honest.

And I know somebody's going to tag me a weeaboo... But if you're not planning to stay there forever, it's a nice place.

I've heard that Japan is significantly more xenophobic than other countries, but I'm still putting forth significant amounts of effort to learn Japanese. Japan has more money, China will welcome you with open arms, and Korea is showing progress in various scientific fields. Japan is good but they have too many white teachers

Im going to china to teach soon myself. It has better pay, its less expensive to live, and they are so short of English teachers that some richer schools will pay for your housing and some of your insurance for health and property.

4chans xenophobic behavior against Japan is ridiculous. I'm guessing the ones flaming the most are either trolling, or picked up the phrases from a troll and took them for granted, or those are the people most obsessed with the country but too poor to go there and therefore developed some kind of hate-love, by openly defying everything coming from Japan on general terms. The fact that they are browsing on 4chan (obviously) already marks them as liars.

Japan isn't that bad of a choice, but I would consider Taiwan as well. Both should be better than the Peoples Republic or South Korea, seriously.

Don't expect Japan to be entierly different in cultural terms. The country has been so thoroughly westernized over the past 50 years, that you won't feel very out of place. And for short term stays: You won't feel real xenophobic "hate" how many of those 4channers here claim.

It's most likely that older people will be intimdated by you (as they will be in every fucking non english speaking country when they're dealing with foreigners, seriously. And therefore try to escape a conversation. This happened to me twice in a ryokan in the countryside of Kyushu, but by talking some basic Japanese I picked up at that time broke the bounds pretty fast.

My choice would be Japan, I really want to go back after graduating. Maybe for a few months, maybe for longer. But a colleague of mine is currently staying in Taipeh and Taiwan isn't bad either. But don't expect many differences from Japan, really.

The experience was good, have a TESOL certification, they need people everywhere.

I was in rural chiangmai, the experience was good and I only needed basic knowledge of thai to teach. I also did volunteer work with the hill tribes, like hmong, leisu, and whatnot. it was great.
>> Anonymous
I wonder what people expect from their "xenophobic behavior" bullshit. Every country I've been to (and my own country as well) has extreme xenophobic tendencies in the general public. If you're a foreigner, you're never entierly part of the community, obviously. Not even if you've been there for 20 years or more. Let alone 1 or 2 years.

That doesn't mean you won't meet people with whom you can build up a friendship. But obviously not everyone wants to become close friends with a foreigner (duh figures).

Look at eastern european immigrants in western europe countries. Or Mexicans in America. Those are also just foreigners and they still won't see much love from most of the residents.

In the end, it doesn't matter. The people whining are just butthurt faggots who expected Japan, or any other Asian country to be some sort of dreamland. Protip: It's not. So stop whining about it.

China for the food, girls and xenophilia.

Srsly, not only does China have girls of > 9000 ethnicities (well, the han are doing their best to change that, I suppose) to choose from; they all seem very friendly to the Chinese equivalent of gaijin. I'm by no means a alpha male on steroids type, and appearance wise I'm fairly average, nevertheless I had no problem picking up chicks (and a couple of guys too, by accident). Further, if you know some rudimentary Chinese history or historical persons (Xiaoping is popular), they'll all be (or pretend to be) amazed speechless. Further, further, unlike Japanese girls, Chinese girls actually moan when sexed. That's a rather big difference from their Japanese counterpart who mostly lay there with a puzzled look on their faces. Then again, maybe I did it wrong.

The food's also great; not just the traditional stuff, but also the Kung-Fu fast food chain. Gott damn, it's healthier when it's cooked!

Only bad thing about the place is the government, but unless you do something really stupid (drugs, bombs, firearms, etc), they'll leave you alone, and the PLA-guys you see in the streets are really not much more than tourist guides. By the way, minor offences, such as driving without a license or evading the internet filter isn't anything the govt. will bother you with. If you're really government shy, stick to the countryside (ie. western China) where people hardly know which nation they're a part of, let alone have seen a government official.

tldr; China, FUCK YEAH! It's China!

Japan is just very xenophobic.

It's part of its culture. They just like to be japanese. It's not like how the americans hate immigrants too; this is different. The mexicans pretty much invade the US. That's the only real hated group in the US right now. ("terrorrist" (Allah who ackbar! Sharia Law in France!) muslims are universally hated)

I mean, if you're from wherever, and you're in France or in Canada or in the US, countries who are used to diverse cultures, you'll be fine. Japan though isn't like that and never will. It's not like they'll kill you, but unlike in the afromentioned countries where after a while you'll start to blend in, in Japan you'll never be "japanese".

But that's alright. OP is only going there to teach. Temporary residents / permanent residents / non-citizens are liked for the most part. Just try and respect japanese culture while you're there, else you'll get on the bad side of the older people.

I doubt you know what you're talking about, but if you do, I met a mongolian who emigrated to japan in college, since his japanese was native level(i.e no accent, spoke like tokyo people do), no one ever even asked if he was an immigrant, since he changed his name when he moved there(he was 12)and people just think he's japanese

end term is that if you look east asian, speak native japanese, they will accept you as japanese, if you're south east asian(slim possible), or anything else (white, black, etc) then no
>> Anonymous

brb china

Im looking into this whole teach english overseas deal see it as 6-12 months off from my normal life. It will definately be asia if I do it and to me China is first choice, japan would expect a decent work ethic and I am ruled out anyways as they expect you to have some sort of degree. Of the korean people I have met I have not really got on well with any of them so I will give that a miss (though I do find korean girls hawt), Thailand just doesnt appeal to me for some reason. Vietnam is probably my second choice at the moment all the vietnamese people I know I get along with pretty well, though im not sure how safe vietnam is. Money is not an issue for me have around 100k sittin in the bank so really all that matters is the job covers my living costs over there, just want to take some time off from my life before I take on a mortgage and all that shit.

I'm going to be teaching English in china later this year too. So far my main concern is deciding where to try for a job at. I don't really want to be in the middle of a big-ass city. That would probably double the culture shock. Right now I live out in the country where it's a thirty minute drive to find anything taller than a tree. But I don't want to live in a dirt poor farming area either.

The whole multiple languages thing also seems to be a down point. I doubt I'll be going to far from where I live, but I'd still like to be able to communicate with most of the people there once I learn a bit myself. I'll probably try for somewhere that speaks Mandarin.

I've been looking at a lot of blogs, and so far China seems like an interesting place. Most websites I've seen that have anything majorly bad to say about it are all focused on Tibet and other things that everyone knows about anyway. Like>>17659said, as long as I don't do anything stupid I shouldn't have to worry about the government either.

Yes you do. If you want even a semblance of western convieniences, you want to be in a city. Doesn't have to be big (keep in mind 3 million is a small/medium sized city in China). But you want a city.

This is not true. These countries don't care what your BA is. Most of the teachers in Japan on these JET style schemes and such do not have degrees in Education. They have it in random crap like Art and other shit that would never be useful. The countries simply want Bachelor degrees because it's illegal to give a work visa to anyone without one.

Hi, I'm a tall white guy in guangzhou. People here don't really stare compared to cities a couple hours away, let alone rural places. Maybe you just looked like a clueless foreigner.

It's really not a big deal anywhere though. Staring isn't impolite. Use it to your advantage. Give every pretty girl you see (that is, 90% of girls you see) a big grin and now and again one will say hello and come back to your apartment for private lessons.
Try it on a university bus. It's so fucking easy to get laid here if you're white. I kind of feel sorry for all the trading company niggers in the expat areas.

>>17659Chinese girls actually moan when sexed.
Not just moaning; they squeal exactly like in asian porn. No idea where they get it from since most of them don't know what porn is.

And the government? Never noticed them. Harvesting organs from political prisoners is kind of a dick thing to do, yeah, but personally I've so far been enjoying a fuckload more freedom than I ever did back home. They seem to keep their dicks out of the little stuff.
