Ok /trv/

I'm 19, from Australia and It's been my lifelong dream to move to America.

Whats the easiest, cheapest way to get out of here and over there? Like how can I make it so I can live in the US?

Also, i don't want to hear about why America sucks, because I don't care.

Also also, what's the best state to LIVE in, not for a holiday I mean.

Depends on what you're into...
>Whats the easiest, cheapest way to get out of here and over there?
That would be getting a work visa after being hired for a job since having a fuck load of money is not likely.
>> Anonymous
Easiest way to move here is through a student visa and then getting a job at a company here, or just securing a job in the US. If you have questions, you can set up a meeting with the US consulate or embassy in Australia and ask them. Having a skill that's in demand(doctor, engineering) will definatly give you priority. The diversification lottery may also be a good bet. Not many Australians enter it and they weigh by region.

Texas is really good. The economy is one of the strongest and it has one of the smallest tax burdens in the country. There is no income tax(only federal), but they make up for it in sales tax though(8%).

Some may tempt you to goto the Northeast, Midwest, or West Coast, but don't. Everything is much more expensive there.

The cheapest thing is just hopping on a plane and coming over here. Just have an apartment ready to move into and you'll be fine. The weak dollar and the fact that most stuff is cheaper in the US will be a big plus for you.
>> Anonymous
You're young so get into a school here and get a student visa, then get a job. Getting citizenship shouldn't be too tough, but if it is meet a big breasted American girl and marry her.

Don't listen to the Texas fag, Texas is filled with niggers and Mexicans, its 10,000 degrees in the summer, and its full of poor dumb rednecks.

The reason stuff is cheaper there is because there are no good jobs so no one has any money.

Move to New York, you can't go wrong.

I live in New York; I just graduated from college and am getting the fuck out as quick as possible.

Highest taxes/huge debt/high crime (minorities)/second highest energy prices/incompetent libfag government, ect...

At least houses are cheap though, everyone is fleeing.

OP - Look into the New England states (Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire, say away from the others). Though the climate would be a lot different then in Australia. (Cold)

Get an education, and learn to invest. America is nice if you have money, shitty if you don't.

If you can get the money, California can be a really nice state. Great weather, beaches, mountain resorts, plenty of natural beauty, good produce, multicultural, has silicon valley if you're interested in some kind of IT job, etc. Only downside is how pricey it can be to live here.

Its not hard to live in NYC if you're young, just find a cheap small place in Brooklyn. The jobs here pay better than anywhere else and depending on your field you could go far here. Plus NY has the best nightlife in the world which is great for a young kid.

Why in hell would a 20 year old live in PA or VT, those places are for old people.

You talking "live" for a long time? You could spend a few months or more if you come to work. Theme parks, national parks, and other service-oriented places bring people in from all over the world in order to work. It's seasonal, from three to six months at at time, but it gets you in, and gives you a taste of a side of the States that not even a lot of Americans know.

Pros: Highly social atmosphere, and youth-oriented, bringing all sorts of different people together to work and live in the same place. Lodging and food tend to be taken care of. The jobs are easy to get, and getting the job means an easy in from outside U.S. borders. You get to live in a place that most people want to live, but only get to visit for a few days.

Cons: Bad wages, long hours, crappy work in general, often poor housing, and a "company store" attitude by many employers, especially toward internationals who really have nowhere else to go once they get there.

The Trick:
Find friends, preferably ones with access to cars, and go out and explore ALL THE TIME. If all you do is eat the shitty cafeteria food, and sit around in the shitty dorm rooms, then you're not going to have the best American Experience. However, if you take advantage of your time off, and go out looking for adventure, then you'll have a blast.

That's the best advice I can give. You won't be rich, you may not stay, but it'll be an awfully fun time, I can tell you that.

It depends on what kind of life you want to lead. If you want a city life, move into Chicago or New York City. Don't bother with LA. Rural life? What kind? Look at Oregon, Washington, or the southeast.

Just look into population statistics and local laws and norms.

>easiest, cheapest way
As with most things, cheaper is probably harder.

I grew up in southern California, now I live in SF. Everyone will tell you that they're totally different places; it's true for the most part. The whole state is pretty expensive, but wages are higher in general, so it's kind of a wash. The US is huge and diverse enough to let you live out just about any lifestyle. It depends what you want really. Most of the country requires a car to get around, and the places that don't (NYC, SF, Boston, etc) are a pain to find a place to live on top of being more expensive.

The economy sucks right now, so it's probably tough to find a job that's willing to sponsor a visa. And that's if you have a college degree. Since you're 19 I'm guessing you only have a HS education. I guess you could work illegally; if so, there goes your tax refund if you don't get paid under the table.

LOL Australian illegals.

That with the fact I went to highschool in Harlem and Columbia University bought half the fucking neighborhood. Before my suggestion, I will announce my bias.

I'm from Los Angeles, it's OK, but not great if you don't have lots of money. San Francisco is worse, money wise.

Also, these Texasfags, the ones that are still there willingly, are just like our current president. My grandmother was a Texan, though since she had the good sense to get the fuck out, many would say she never was a Texan.
If you like Oz's environment, try Nevada, Arizona, or New Mexico.

If you want away from that, and also, assuming some things from the fact you use 4chan, I recommend Portland, Oregon. Weird enough people, at a reasonable price. And, it's close enough that if shit gets bad, you can always run to Vancouver.

>I live in texas, love it.Plano to be precise, which mirrors every suburb in texas. nothing thrilling, but the standards of living are nice.

LMFAO Plano.

And much like every suburb in Texas there will be nothing to do. Your only source of entertaiment will be plastic shithole mall complexes like the Legacy Center in Plano. Group consensus when we went there, "Other than the steaks, this place is a shithole".

Southern California = win. The weather and women alone are worth the traffic and bullshit.

ITT people who have never lived in New York talk about New York.

i have lived in both NYC and rural, upstate NY. yeah, sometimes this state can be kind of faggy -- when it comes to things like taxes and guns and the like, our laws are shitty and annoying, especially in the city. if you want to live in a Northeastern state with more personal freedom and a smaller government, move to New Hampshire or Massachusetts. however, NYC is an amazing city that is not nearly as crappy as some anonymous would have you believe. yes, things are expensive here, but jobs pay EXTREMELY well, and if you have a skill you will have no problem finding a job and a place to live. crime is very low; don't believe anyone who tries to tell you otherwise. culture-wise it is probably the most diverse city in the Eastern hemisphere. it's a great place for young people.

anyone who tries to say that upstate New York is full of rednecks has obviously never been there. a large portion of non-city New York is, in fact, filled with extremely wealthy white people -- especially the south half of the state. there are lots of farmers around, and when you go further north things become more middle class... but i've been to precious few small New York towns that i would call redneck. small towns in the Northeast are very, very different from small towns in the South and Midwest. they're very clean, generally old and historic, and for the most part are well-run, well-organized, and tight-knit communities of middle class white folks. the poor minorities in New York stick to the city and its immediate suburbs. it's why upstate New York consistently votes conservative.

Ok OP, listen to me very carefully.

You do NOT, I repeat do NOT want to live anywhere in the South. There are a few morons in here pushing states like Texas and North Carolina, but you will HATE IT as a foreigner. The South is about as stereotypical "dumb American" as you can get. Let me give you my personal recommendations and warnings.

Places I would recommend, pros/cons listed below each one:
Seattle, Washington and surrounding area
Pros: Beautiful scenery, mild summers, snows just a little in the winter, enough so you enjoy it but don't get sick of it, very nice people, lots of job opportunities in anything technology/computer related.
Cons: Very rainy/cloudy in the winter (though that could be a pro if you're a rainy weather kind of guy), somewhat on the expensive side, but still not bad compared to places like California and New York.

Portland, Oregon and surrounding area
Pros/Cons: Much the same as Seattle, just a bit cheaper and a tiny bit warmer.

San Francisco, California
Pros: Very mild climate, not too much rain, rarely gets very hot. Quite an interesting city with all kinds of people and cultures. Lots of interesting places to live and see as well.
Cons: Extremely expensive, lots of homeless people.

San Diego, California
Pros: Warmish but not hot climate. Temperate most of the year, but little rain. Not actually overrun with illegal immigrants in the nicer areas of the city. Pretty laid back city with friendly people, and few hicks.
Cons: Again, rather expensive. While the nicer areas of the city are illegal immigrant free, there are some pretty sketchy parts, especially south of town.
>> Anonymous
Denver, Colorado and surrounding areas:
Pros: Very cheap. Close to the Rocky Mountains, which offer tons of world class (but expensive) ski resorts, hiking, and plenty of natural beauty. Great if you're an outdoorsy type.
Cons: Not a whole lot to do if you aren't into outdoor activities. Sometimes it can snow almost into the summer.

Minneapolis, Minnesota and surrounding areas:
Pros: Very cheap, extremely friendly people. You will be surprised just how nice some people in Minnesota are. Generally a modern, liberal city, contrary to what you may have been led to believe about the Midwest.
Cons: Winters are BRUTAL, with temperatures approaching -40 at times. With such brutal winters you would expect mild summers, but they can actually be extremely hot and humid as well, with temperatures often in the upper 30s Celsius (that's the 90s Fahrenheit), combine that with 90% humidity and it can be hellish. Perhaps a bit more family oriented, not so sure what it would be like for a 19 year old.

AVOID THESE PLACES AT ALL COSTS:
New York, Boston, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, anywhere in the South (that includes Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana). Virginia is an exception to the South rule, but only in the Washington DC area. Florida should also be avoided due to overwhelming amounts of drug dealing Cubans and old people.
>> Anonymous
The reason I say to avoid the Northeast is because one, it is very expensive, and you will also meet another kind of "ugly American." These are not rednecks, but they are loud, obnoxious, rude, bubble gum chewing assholes that will shove you to the ground and shout obscenities at you to get to the last pack of cigarettes in the drug store. You do not want to meet these people. People from New York and New Jersey are generally the worst.

Absolute highest priority must be avoiding the South. The South is completely overrun with the most bigoted, stupid, ignorant hicks and rednecks you will ever encounter. Some immediate metro areas such as Atlanta are slightly protected from such people, but as soon as you are 5 miles out of the city, you are deep in redneck country. This is NOT a good place for a foreigner of any kind, even a white one, as you likely have a noticeable accent.

Now OP, my top picks for you would be anywhere in the Pacific Northwest (meaning Washington and Oregon), probably Portland mainly, as that’s a bit cheaper. Also, Denver is up there too. It’s quite cheap, and you will not encounter many stereotypical Americans.

Either California or texas. California isnt as expensive as ppl put it. EVery major city/area has its different social class city/town. There are cities near/in metropolitan areas where you can live comfortably for decent amount of money & NOT live near niggers.
Ex. LA area. Hawthorne is a nice place. well priced, near the rich beach communities & actual LA (hometown of the beachboys). YOull enjoy it more in LA I would say. good nite life, melting pot of culture & ideas. & fairly easy to get good paying jobs (even those that pay under the table) if you put some effort. ALso the girls are wonderful (although many are shallow as fuck)

Texas would also be good due to its better standard @ living but im sure youll only find meager jobs. If mexicans can get paye dunder the table you can. It doesnt have as many attractions as the big cities but more mellow. Southern girls are also babes & not as shallow as cali girls.
Most chick over here would dig the Aus. accent & you could quickly hook up with some chick & get a place to stay, maybe even talk her into helping you with your citizenship. Just counts on how good you look. But in America anything can happen, where even the ugliest of fucks can get some
