Berkeley, California Anonymous
I live here and I'll be damned if doesn't constantly smell like asshole, and is full of homeless people. Not to mention the general ugliness of the girls here, honestly the only thing I enjoy about here is the absolute shit crazy homeless people, they are the nuttiest bar none.

what does /trv/ think of this place?.. is there something I'm missing.

Maybe step outside your house.

What's that really dangerous city not far from San Francisco?

Compton?

Richmond, it's the asshole of the bay
>>10696
Say that I do set outside my house constantly, got any better ones?
>> the fucking nigger that posts on /k/
>>10701
oakland, hawyard, hercules, san leandro, and pretty much most of the east bay.
>>10707
Move down here to san jose!
>> Anonymous
Oakland, that's the one.

My friend said she went there by herself on a Saturday and it was deserted. She's like 5'4 and English.

People said they were surprised she didn't get shot.

concord. so bad.

I lived in Berkeley for 2 years while attending the UC. Shit sucked. It's a terrible neighborhood for the most part, dirty as fuck, bums and niggers all around, no familiar decent places to get food, and just the whole liberal atmosphere sucked balls.

Moved back to the city last year (cause I finished school). The only thing Berkeley has on SF is the weather. Other than that, good riddance.

I should've gone to Davis...
>> Anonymous
i live in tiburon so i don't know anything besides mill valley, sausalito, and san rafael. and of course some areas in san francisco. =( but uc berkeley is a very good school, and i applied there. so, i might be stuck there for the next 4 years.

>>10730
have you visited davis? lol, i drive by whenever my sister and i want to go to our place in tahoe, and its in the middle of no where. and not even a better school. if anything you should have gone to ucla, and even that isn't as good as berkeley.
>> Anonymous
>>10736
I've been to the UCLA area a few times (visiting a friend) and, suffice to say, unless you're a pompous rich asshole, stay the fuck away. I was actually accepted to UCLA but err, no thanks.

Yeah, I know Davis is in the middle of nowhere, but I've been there dozens of times visiting a bunch of close friends and it beats Berkeley in every respect (except the reputation and the whole being in the middle of nowhere part).
>> Anonymous
>>10724
Oakland isn't the one, it's varied, parts are dangerous, but no part is as bad as Richmond is an whole, or any of the other places mentioned.
>>10730
OP here, I'm going to the UC right now, I wouldn't be in this shithole otherwise, plus the girls here are xtra ugly as i've mentioned.
>>10736
UC's don't always work that way, I didn't get into UCLA, I'm planing on transferring there if I can. and yeah DAVIS suuuuuuucks
>> Anonymous
I live in Berkele, I love it here. Some of the most colorful people. The weather hardly changes. What do you mean no good food? You went to school here and you didn't find Oscar's burger joint? Or That little cafe thing near starbucks off Shattuck? There's a ton of Thai and asian foods, a crappy French place. There's an *awesome* Jewish food place up near Safeway.

Not to mention if you take a bus over to Emeryville there's a crapton of sandwich joints and stuff. The rent here's a bit too high I think, but being right in the middle of everything has it's drawbacks.

Oakland used to be the State Record holder for murders.
>> Anonymous
>>10742
Hell, even Richmond has it's fancy bits. Head up to the hills.
>> Anonymous
>>10740
Yeah, I've been to all those asian spots and the like, but you know what, I want some fucking franchises. Gimme a fucking Burger King or a Taco Bell near campus or some shit. I don't want to have to drive out of the way to get fast food.

And I know there are decent places in Emeryville, except that I lived 5 blocks from campus so fucking driving all the way out there was a bitch.
>> Anonymous
>>10740
OP here, know any good places to hang out?... because I'm at a loss here.
>> Anonymous
>>10745
I agree
hah, McDonald's on shattuck is the shit though, full of some of the craziest mother fuckers in the city, one time I walked in a had a guy in wheelchair with an American flag tapped to his head whistle the national anthem behind me, and he isn't nearly the worst.

>>10746
Depends on your interests. Berkeley's mostly hippies and artists. if you're into any of that stuff then you're set on stuff to do. I was so pissed when they took the arcade out of the Public Market. It was crappy, but it was an arcade!

I like heading up to Telegraph, just off the campus there's a bunch of familiar shops and always some street shops.

There's a comic place off of Shattuck that has comic events frequenty, can't remember when though. Check out the Ashby Bart station on weekends for one of those flea-market things, up by Safeway off Shattuck there's another one on.. uhh, wednesdays I think?
>> Anonymous
>>10747
Man, fuck that McDonald's. I always felt like I was THIS close to getting AIDS or some STD just by standing in like with those dirty fucks who frequent the place.

My favorite place by far was Nation's which is further from campus on University.

And yes, the girls at Berkeley do suck ass. There were a few decent looking Eurasians, but other than that, it was mostly hideous broads.

Come to think of it you might be right, I can see how their are exceptions. But, if you get into Berkeley the best of the UC schools, I don't see why you wouldn't get accepted to UCLA as well. It is ranked lower.
Idk, my reach school is Stanford. I'm fairly confident I'll get into Berkeley/UCLA/USC. Probably go to USC if I don't get accepted to Stanford though. My dad went to USC and he is hell bent on keeping tradition. So...

one word, Art Program. UCLA's is the best of the best of the best, I applied, didn't get in.

I went to berkely once and stayed there for a couple days. i guess its alright if your a tourist and staying with someone who knows his way around, as well as San Fran. I really liked the weather.

Also, I remember when I got there I went to this pizza place where it was made in those brick ovens. Its practically in this courtyard. pretty nice. I just cant remember the name or its location. Anyone which one im talking about?

I've seen only one good looking girl in Berkeley.

>>10770
yeah, she didn't go there, she was somebodies sister. or mother

>>10771
Actually, she lives there yet can't afford school.

fuck berkeley. i've been there twice and the best part of both trips was people saying "i love your moustache".

I like in Oakland, and I go to Berkeley City College. Berkeley's okay, but unless you go to Cal or you are old and rich and enjoy listening to harp music or some shit at the Julia Morgan center there's shit all to do. The Gilman sucks, the Starry Plough sucks, you have to be a total indie asshole or hippie to have fun at Ashkenaz, the movie theaters are overpriced, Telegraph is quickly turning into a horrible gentrified scenester shopping area/junkie hangout shithole, northern Shattuck is being overrun by people who heard about Cheeseboard online, College Ave. is what half of Telly wants to become, and 4th is a little slice of Sausalito transplanted across the bay.

I like Becket's, Triple Rock, and Jupiter.

I don't live in Berkeley, but this was my experience when I visited and I liked it. That's the kind of shit I'm interested though, and if it's not I can definitely understand not liking it.

I slept on it, /trv/, and Berkeley *still* sucks.
>> Anonymous
>>10942
OP here, I slept on it too and was woken up by terrible stoner music, I hate this place.
>> Anonymous
Suckers.

Honestly, I'm a Berkeley graduate and it's all considered a good school and all but....I got a job 3 months ago that pays fairly well that had absolutely NOTHING to do with my major and not once was I asked to show them my diploma or anything. I could've said I had an fucking PhD from Harvard.

Point of the story, companies don't give a fuck about your education, they care about your experience.
>> Anonymous
>>11097
what exactly was your major?

>>10736
marinfags? in my /trv/?
>>10742
true. richmond is pretty shady and although north richmond is a scary ass place, international in east oakland is not somewhere you want to go. EPA and Hunters Point are just as bad as richmond imo.

but berkeley... it has a pretty diverse bit of music. if you're into rock or hip-hop/rap (locally grown of course), then it's a great place to go. just make sure not to venture into shady regions because going from a nice area to a shitty one isn't too hard. if you're also looking for drugs, berkeley is your place.

besides that, fuck berkeley. i would never go there for longer than a day trip. But that day trip can be reasonably enjoyable. especially if you spend that day at a concert shaking your dreads (if ya yadidamean).

Don't try to gussy up the awful image of Berkeley, dick.
>> Anonymous
The idiocy of the people here never ceases to amaze me. Racism, sexism, angry blind support of whichever group can spew the most platitudes, hippies climbing trees (and great job, BPD, I'm sure fencing off that shit by Wheeler won't only encourage them). The people are dirty, stupid, and oh, the androgyny!

I'm curious about the McDonald's, though. Is it really that bad? It's the only fast food in the vicinity and I was thinking of stopping by.

Other than that, the campus is fairly nice, but I really think you're better off in SF.
>> Anonymous
>>11129
Dude, like I said, go to Nation's. It's a few blocks further from campus on the same street (University) on the other side of the street than the McDonald's.
>> Anonymous
>>11131
cheap? I've never heard of it before
>> Anonymous
Ah Berkeley...I remember visiting once when UC Berkeley accepted me. I made the mistake of accidentally going on Earth Day. It smelled awful, I visited a co-op and saw rotting food in one corner, and passed a hobo with a sign saying "I need money for pot." At least he was honest, I guess. But the worst thing was the damp. I felt cold and sick the whole time.

>>10737
I have to agree with this anon. As a current UCLA student, I have never encountered more depressingly shallow people in my life. I have no idea where the intelligence in this school comes from.
>> Anonymous
>>11124
>if you're also looking for drugs, berkeley is your place... to get quickly arrested
the drugs here are ridiculously expensive, In my home town we get them for free, of course my home town is Grass Valley.
>>11129
Yeah I don't know what they are thinking, I saw 5 Pd members watching that one dirty hippy sitting in a tree like a hawk the other day. Personally i love the Mcdonalds, it's a Unique experience, in the vein getting shanked, somehow tho, no matter how dirty the burgers are, they all taste the best to me.
>> Anonymous
i did a roadtrip from austin texas to ca. i liked the town because of its heritage but it did not impress me much. telegraph ave was overrated and i spent most of my time back in sf
>> Anonymous
>>11217
HOW DARE you not be impressed by smelly hippies with dreadlocks pedaling shifty jewerly.
