I have never been outside of my home state of Texas.

I want to leave Texas.

I want to experience the entire world, begining with any place hundreds of miles from home.

How do I go about doing so with only a high school degree and a near complete lack of money.

Here's what I did:
Work full time for a few months
Travel somewhere cheap - I went to Southeast Asia
To save money on airfare, do a courier flight
Good luck, and don't be afraid

you can literally make your way anywhere in the world as long as you're not a chicken shit

Oh, and since you're from TX, I hope you're not overly patriotic. You might have to deal some jokes/insults about the US from other travelers. Don't take it personally or try to defend yourself, just laugh it off. The fact that you are an American traveling abroad already shows something about you.

Fellow Texan here, not OP. Is it alright if we make immensely insulting jokes about europe in return? Also are anti-semetic jokes still the rage? I got quite a few laughs the last time I told my volkswagon jew joke when I was in Germany.

Work in import/export companies that have offices in other countries...

I'm an engineering student and they often offer us 6 month jobs all around the world in that kind of places. Great thing is that you have a job and you don't have to stay for too long if you don't want to.

Just remember you have to know some languages!

Well you could join the military I would suggest airforce cus they have nicer bases, and their deployments are only six months and they can drink on deployments. my husband is army and wwe're in germany and it super cool cus its reall cheap to travel within europe. as Airforce you could get stationed in the UK nd travel around there. OR you could sign up for college and get grants and loans, and sell all your worldly possessions and backpack through europe like my friend is doing. you can always sell you body in amsterdam too ;P

I never knew about these before. You rule.

Probably the cheapest way to travel is to hike the Appalachian Trail or other trails. You will need some money but after a while you can learn how to hike with very little money.

In southern states (like mine anyway) the government makes you jump through hoops for welfare unless you're white. More rednecks on welfare than blacks.

Fellow Texan here. Unless you live in some po-dunk part of the state, you can get a job easily that pays $10+/hr just about anywhere in the state. Do NOT spend your money on crap. Live by bare minimums then reward yourself later on.

I work for a few, save massive amounts in 6 month period then go travel for weeks at a time. I've been to Asia, Europe and just got back from Canada in doing this and seen amazing things. I make my friends super-jealous because while they're wasting their money on 360/PS3/Cars, I'm seeing the world outside of Texas.

There's nothing wrong with the state as Austin, South Padre Island (pre-Hurricane Holly) and San Antonio are nice places but I understand the urge to go see the rest of the world.
