Hey /trv/

Thinking about working on a cruise ship for a while. I have a lot of experience in entertainment, food service, and hospitality, so I figure I should be able to find something. But I've never even been on a cruise, so I don't know what to expect.

Primary concerns:
- Wondering if it's a good way to earn/save money quickly.
- Good way to sightsee?
- Is it dangerous? I've heard some unsettling things, but I think my friends were just trying to fuck with me.

Anyone ever work on a ship?

I've been on a cruise. For the most part the employees seem to be foreign, leading me to assume that cruise lines thrive on cheap labor despite the reputation of cruises as a strictly upper-class venture.

So no, I don't imagine it pays very well... but hey! Lodging and food are covered!

I doubt it's a very good way to sightsee. I mean, you definitely go to interesting places, but while the passengers are out and about you've probably got duties to perform. So, in essence, you get to see some really interesting ports. From a distance. Repeatedly, so even that slight novelty would probably wear off quickly.

As for danger... I don't think so. Safety is one of their primary concerns. Danger from what, exactly? Sinking? Rowdy passengers?

OP here. Someone told me that people get murdered a lot on cruise ships. But again, I think they were messing with me.

Anyway, I was thinking less grunt work and more in entertainment. Specifically stage management - managing the backstage goings-on at one of the shows. So I think the pay would be decent, but I have to look into it more.
