My university is offering a $1,500 travel grant to one of three cities. The choices are Paris, Berlin, and London.

I don't speak/am not taking classes for French, or German, but it seems like both Berlin and Paris would be a little cooler than London.

Can I get by with just English in those two cities? Also, any advice/pros-and-cons between the three choices?

One of my friends here is a German expat. He strongly recommends young people go visit and live in Berlin for a little bit.

Even with little to no German skills?

Berlin was occupied for 50+ years by the Allies. Half of the people here speak Russian, the other half French and English. Same goes for most tourist attractions, restaurants, stores etc.

Tell us how you liked both cities.

Will do. It's like 10 or so days over winter break, so it'll be a while.

Thanks for the help, /trv/lrs

Berlin: yes
Paris: no, fuckers don't answer you in english. They know exactly what you're talking about, but they are to butthurt to answer you.

if your an american i suggest going to Berlin and london, fuck paris. when you get to paris there is bugger all to see there, i would recomend a weekend but nothing more. more history in Berlin where the people are very clean and most speak great english. Even with the slight bias of being british london has a truckload more places to go and see than paris.

Bullshit and bullshit. Parisians tend to speak very decent English nowadays. Also half of Berlin speaks little to no English for obvious historical reasons.
There is less history to see in Berlin because a good part of the historic city was detroyed during the war. Berlin has the advantage of being cheaper and the nightlife is, in my opinion, superior to Paris'.
>>73341is obviously a bigotted British chav. London is extremely expensive and there is (slightly) less to see than in Paris overall.

In the end i suggest Berlin for the fun and Paris for the culture and the food. London is nice but you really need to be rich to properly enjoy it.

OP here, I'm definitely far from rich. I'm going to have to carefully plan my budget, and stretch out the $1500 grant money as much as I can, as I don't expect that'll be enough to cover all expenses (including airfare).

I need to start looking for some cheap tickets soon. I can't remember if my university has a deal with some travel agency or not...I should really look into this.

The French didn't occupy Berlin, why speak their dirty surrender monkey language, you beat them.

Funfact, the English gave a small part of their territory to France so they would still be allies and not go commie, the French figured that Germany's problem was their lack of culture so they built a million theater companies instead of building up their economy and infrastructure

I have links to some quality german lesson downloads over at 99chans /speak/ library. It's a foriegn language board. They're in the sticky at the top of the board. There's also french, russian, spanish, italian, some japanese, and dutch.
