I go to school in Groningen.
Be prepared for an insane amount of bicycles, it's the biggest bicycle town in the netherlands.
Also.. that's a pretty old picture you have there =P
It's a nice town and a very good place for going out as well.
Also you don't have to go to amsterdam to smoke weeds lol, there's a ton of coffeeshops in groningen as well.
De vliegende hollander (the flying dutchman) being the most known.

Anyhow, I think groningen is a good choice to go to because it's not a city as busy and crowded as for example Amsterdam or other citys in the western part of the country.

Groningen suck, thats not the netherlands.
Go to Rotterdam.

Rotterdam is for niggers and junks.

Groningen is fastly superior. Also the wimenz can actually speak english in Groningen.

I've been to Groningen a few times when I was younger, since it was one of the first cities behind the border (I'm a Germanfag).
I don't remember much, but one thing I remember are the big bicycle lanes, on which one of us accidently drove with his car once. Bicycle lanes as big as car lanes. Pretty confusing when you're stoned

I live here.
It's a chill place, but i'm planning to leave it after my PhD is over.

It's a university student's town, much like Leiden, Amsterdam, Nijmegen and Utrecht. Really one of the biggest places up north with plenty to do.
Not as crowded as Amsterdam and the like, but still geared towards folks in their mid-twenties.

Dutchfag here,

Netherlands is expensive, IMO
Worlds most expensive gas prices for regular gas, is about 8.49~8.82USD a gallon ATM 1.52~1.58 EUR a liter @ 1 EUR = 1.47 USD. If the dollar prices go back up like last month, it would go round 10USD a gallon again. 19% sales tax in general, food is 6% , though you don't notice it.

so if you're from the US and saved for this, you're in for a rough surprise, cuz your money isn't worth much here.

On the other hand, it's a real student city, and a colleague tells me theres a "pub-flat" where there's 16 pubs in a single building, with mostly english speaking wiminz. (<- do want to see)

Though, living near amsterdam i have to say Amsterdam > Groningen.

in b4 weed.

OP here; thanks :D

how about accommodations? am i better off playing the university housing fee of 300 euros for them to find me a place to stay (and still paying ~350 a month) or trying to find a place on my own? i need to keep costs down as much as i can but i don't know whether the university office has priority with local places or if i will have trouble finding anywhere willing to rent to me for just 6 months.
