Just got back from a 10 day trip to China.

As soon as we got there we met my dad's nephew (Kind of related information), and we took a bed train to Zheng Zhou to see my dad's relatives whom we've never seen before. The overnight train ride itself was awesome to see, and the food was nice and cheap. We went on a tour to the Shaolin Monk's temple which completely sucked balls (I swear every building was a damn gift shop). After 2 days we went back to Bejing and took a 2 day tour around to see the Summer Palace (Very nice scenery, definitely not enough time and not enough pictures were taken), Forbidden City (Pretty fun), a Jade factory, Porcelain factory and silk factory which all ended in gift shops (faggotry). In general, my uncle was kind of protective in terms of where we were going, but my family had so much we definitely plan to go back next year without taking any of those tour bus stuff. Any time spent in between was just spent walking around, eating at street vendors (Fucking awesome) and in ultra luxurious private rooms (Meh). The best food was definitely the cafeteria type food where 6 yuan gets you 17 dumplings or a box of fried rice. The exchange rate when we went was 6.9 yuan to 1 dollar, so food was in abundance. Even the high class restaurants only wind up being $7-8 at the most.

Next year we plan to go back again (Probably Bejing), so what does /trv/ recommend?

how was the pollution in the air?

It's not like you'll see smog from the airplane, but it didn't seem to be a problem. There are 16 million in Beijing, with 9 million bycicles, so taking a car is actually the 3rd the most common form of transportation.

l also visited the Great Wall, but it was snowing. lt was so slippery going up, but tons of fun sliding down on the steeper areas of the wall. l could only make it to the first turret, as we were underprepared, but had some really awesome memories.

I was in Beijing over the summer (winter for you north hemispherefags) holidays. My favourite part of Beijing is the hou hai area. Around there is the best part of old beijing, old hutongs (alleyways), some cool bars, shops and cafes lined against the lake. I was there on the first day of snow, it was beautiful. Oh yeah... if you're into modern art go to the 798 art district.. it has some cool music stores and a really good bookstore as well.

If you like underground music, check out d22, kolegas and 13 club. D22's crowd is a really interesting mix of young people, i met some pretty cool people there.

I was in Beijing with my wife's family for a few months, went to the summer palace and it was nice scenery. For fun try a decent non-tourist Beijing duck place, drink Moutai, and go to Chinese walmart (hilarious). Also, after a couple months of Chinese food I tried the Chinese Papa Johns, defuckinglicious, better than in America.

Yes, I would like to request the duck sauce or cream of sumyungai on OP´s image too.

Avoid Guangzhou. Although, no tourist traps there, mostly because there aren't any tourists there because there's nothing to see.

A 10 day trip to... CHINA?

I love Chinas history and culture, but I would never visit there. I try to avoid buy their products. (They want western culture films and music, but still aren't allowed to. Some bootleg gets through, but that does our economies no good) Such a mess over there in so many other respects. The worst of both systems. I hate how America can do massive amounts of business with them and shun Cuba. Just not right

They get plenty of Western films and music. Just not ones that are "subversive," or censored for other reasons, such as being too violent or sexual, which, honestly, isn't that rare across the world. (Also, "some" bootleg? That's like claiming the Himalayas are just "some hills".)

And, besides, it's not as if China's a cultural vacuum that doesn't produce it's own mass entertainment.

Besides, if you really want to help the people of China, you'd buy a shitload of Chinese products. Quality of life has recently taken an upturn in China, and it's not because people in the US are boycotting their goods.

Seriously, though, the shunning of Cuba just shows how pigheaded the US can be in its belief that it has the best system in the world, and that the rest are just shit. Unless they can sell you cheap goods, of course.
