I live in NC...Raleigh for three years now. I wouldn't recommend living in the piedmont area. It's absolutely fucking hot in the summer. Expect an entire week of 100 degrees + the humidity. Humidity adds to the problem, which makes it more like 110 degrees and not being able to breathe. Also, there is barely any snow for the piedmont area, so if you want a white Christmas go farther to the west.
Anyways, if you want to live in Raleigh live in downtown. It's alot more fun than a suburb...there aren't alot of people downtown either, but there are in the college area. Housing is pretty cheap, but you can find cheaper homes in Durham, but that is if you want to get shot and robbed at a gas station.
For the beach areas, they are nice though. You got the outer banks/crystal coast, nags head ect. Expect to not be able to breathe in the summer.
I gotta say that alot of North Carolinians are complete assholes. Especially the older woman, they sound so disgusted. For the youth, they try to dress like their in California(where I previously lived before moving to this shithole.) Generally, people are alright, but don't expect them to be nice to you.
There are quite a few meth labs here, one was shut down close to where I live. You know your seeing a meth lab if your in the deep country area and a beat up trailer with lots of buckets and other things outside. But that isn't always the case.
Well if you have any questions just go for it.
