Planes, Trains & Automobiles. Anonymous
Sup /trv/ three friends and I are taking a trip down to Orlando FL. We all live around Scranton PA. We are trying to think of the most cost effective way of traveling down to FL. I suggested we take a train from Philly to Orlando but that got shot down. Driving is an option but we are worried that our cars might not make it down (all of them are junkers). My other friend suggested taking a plane but the cost of a round trip flight from PA to FL might cost just as much as driving down. We are leaving in June and staying for a week. What would /trv/ suggest?

TL:DR
Need some Ideas for a trip to Orlando(FL) from Scranton(PA). Trip is in June 09'.

So, why the fuck wouldn't you fly and get there in a few hours rather than 12? Would you rather sit in a car with three other sweaty bastards for half a day and experience all the fun things like shitty drivers and Virginia police?

I forgot to mention My one friend has never been on a plane and is deathly afraid of them. It would take ketamine to get her on one.

Also, how much do you think a train would cost compared to a plane?

A train would be your best bet if you and your friends don't mind a long ride.

Jesus h christ, people are lowering their sites lately aren't they? Hey dude, has the recession and economy got you down? I fucking lol'ed hard for about 10 minutes just imagining a fucking road trip from Scranton to Orlando....

I mean absolutely no offense at all, but I could think of 10 better places to go and I don't even know you.

#1 vegas
#2 n.o.
#3 NYC
#4 Boston
#5 Ft Lauderdale/Miami/keys
#6 Philly (I mean, fucking ORLANDO?)
#7 San Antonio / mexico
#8 Any fucking cheap beach on the east coast

Fly to wherever you are going. Jetblue, Southwest, etc. They have $99 each way flights. For CHRIST SAKES.

OK, thats only 8. Seriously, Mickey donald and goofy are pretty played out, especially for a week. If you were going through FL on your way to Ft. Lauderdale, stop in tampa and go to busch gardens.

Driving from Philly to Orlando takes around 21 hours (not counting stops), it can be a fun drive if you make it fun. Chesapeake Bay Bridge (takes a bit longer, will add a a few hours but worth it to be on a bridge and not see land :O). Alexandria, VA is a beautiful little yuppie town/suburb.. you could also make a stop in Washington, tons to do there. If you get bored with I-95 get off and take 301 for a while, it's nearly parallel to 95 for the entire length but passes through some local towns and you can really see the rural areas, which make it more interesting. Not much to see in the Carolinas that's near 95, though there is South of the Border mini-themepark between the two Carolinas. But it's seen better days, the best part is the giant neon sombrero. Georgia is long and boring too, unless you like pine trees (no flames guys, Georgia really is boring). Shortly after crossing into Florida there's Jacksonville, not very interesting but big. South of Jax there's St. Augustine, the "Oldest city in the nation", lots of interesting things to see there (and eat, omg seafood). Past that is Daytona, surfer territory. It's in Daytona you'll wanna get off 95 and get on I-4 to take you to Orlando.

Long post is long. But I've done the drive from Jax to Philly almost every year for 12 years now (relatives).
