I've got to get out of Britain, /trv/

I've spent all of my 25 years on this dreary little island and I really need to get out and see the world because this country is getting more depressing by the day. The only "travelling" I have done is around the usual mediterranean tourist resorts that have sprung up to accomodate us drunken Brits and our awful antics. Oh, and I went to Disney World when I was a kid.

I want to see Asia: Japan, China, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam. I want to visit Oz and NZ, maybe work out there for a while. I want to experience some of the "real" America, not just the inside of some all-you-can-eat buffet in Orlando.

I've got the travel bug, bad. But I've got no money, a low paid job and everyone telling me to "settle down". I don't wanna spend whats left of my youth working 9-5 in some shitty office, giving half my earnings away to the government. I've got to get out, even if its just for a little while

What is it gonna cost me to spend 6 months touring Asia and Australia? And where do I even start to begin planning a big trip around the world?

Fuck the cocksuckers telling you to settle down. You're young, you should go out and see the world.

I can't think of anything off the top of my head on how to finance it besides working odd jobs (like bartending and whatnot) while you're in a country to get a little extra cash. Of course, without the proper work visas that could be risky. As far as financing goes, other anons could probably help you better.

But I do have some advice as the "real America" bit. The first thing is DO IT because the dollar is such shit right now it's like $2 to a pound. The second is if you have the time and the money, go to both coasts. You are going to have to spend money on airfare to do this, but it's worth it. There's great things to see in California and Washington and great things to see in New England. Plus, New York City and San Francisco are must see cities as far as I'm concerned. Honestly, we love the Brits over here. Go into a bar with interesting people and start up a conversation and as soon as you open your mouth people will be interested in you. Meet some locals, ask them where to go.

If money is an issue and you like asia, south east asia is the way to go. Thailand, Cambodia, Laos.

My advice - do what Im doing! Teach in Korea. You get free accomodation, don't need to speak any Korean, and just talk English (asuming your a natural speaker) to kids for 25 hours a week. Its a years contract, and Ill leave about £8-10k richer, and that includes eating out everynight, drinking at weekends, and having seen all of Korea. I'm going traveling after that, Australia for 3 months (may do some off shitty jobs there), Thailand, Malaysia, China, etc, then Im going back to UK via Europe and Trans Siberain. It'll take 18-24 months aof my life, and I'll have broken evern at the end, but what are your fellow friends going to achieve in 2 years - maybe a low level promotion? And Ill be more confident, more experienced, and worldly wise. Plus, Ill have a year teaching experience, which is always respected (cos we think kids are buggers to teach, whereas they are awesome here, respectful and willing to work!)

I suggest that you do it. You get paid to travel. No other country does that (and pays well)

Thats sounds pretty cool actually. Do you need qualifications though?

In Asia money isn't a problem like this guy said>>52748

You can always teach English and it pays well.

You need a degree

Nope. It may help you get the school you want though, but all schools are good. Go through an agency with good recomendations (read through feedback).

Relevant qualifications are the TEFl (Teach English asa Foreign Langauge), or just general teaching. I had neither, but now I have some.

Korea is an awesome country to live in. Teaching pays far above the average, and you get free accomodation (£2k a month?, but everything is so cheap, so you get to keep 75% of it after living well. Flights out there and visa included, and all done for you. best way of travelling ever!

No you don't. Most countries requie it, but kortea doesn't. And pays more. Good stuff.

Not in Asian country. You don't need anything. Sometimes they'll let you teach English even though you can't speak anything but French, as long as you look Caucasian.

Just been googling this and every agency I see says you definitely need a degree of some sort. no teaching qualifications but you need to be a graduate. I'd probably be a shit teacher anyway, I've got no patience with kids

Hey op,

I'm in exactly the same situation as you. British, longing to get away. I'm going to Australia for nine months in April before going over to New Zealand and then Manilla.

I'll be gone for about two years total.

Now, I have a crappy job too. So I've got myself a second job at a 4* hotel bar. The money is minimum wage, but the tips I get enable me to live off them whilst saving ALL my wages. I worked out I need £3000 in total for Australia (flight and spending - i have accommodation sorted for a while) which I will top up whilst over there with a job. Now, I do 20 hours a week at this bar on top of my normal job and it nets me around £420 a month. Save that for six months and you've got yourself 2500 quid. Top that up with Christmas gifts of money, and your normal wages, and you have yourself a trip to Australia!

I know of loads of opportunities over there to rake in the cash. Pearling, mining, etc etc. Let me know if you wanna hear about em.
