The best player in the NBA is featured on the cover of upcoming SI. And his friends.

The right half of the best player in the NBA is featured, you mean.

Wow. They totally just spliced Wade and James in half. Who took this photo, GEORGE KARL?!?!?!?
>> Anonymous
They're all cursed.

Correction: Carmelo is cursed, the left 2/3rds of Lebron are cursed, and Wade's right arm is cursed.

The hell with those 3. Where the fuck is Dwight Howard?
>> Dr. Swordopolis
What? I don't see Dirk Nowitzki anywhere on that cover.

>>20722
Dirk Nowitzki has been in the NBA a while now, wasn't that cover taken when they were all rookies?

Dirk was drafted in '98. The cover is obviously of the 2003 draft class, which by far has been the most successful.

wheres DARKO?

carmello's got all the offensive skills, and his clutch, but...
where's the D?
until his D gets better, dwyane and 'bron will always be ahead of him

Melo has guarded Lebron one on one for the past 2 years but Lebron doesn't guard Melo at all. What does that say about Lebron's D? DWade isn't much better than either of those two. Of the three, Melo's the best scorer and shooter, DWade is the best ball handler and the quickest guy, and Lebron's the best passer. They all play average one-on-one D.

IIRC Dwyane and LeBron have been in the top 10 in steals per game. But that doesn't really show how many times they've gambled and lossed. Melo's real versatile. He can pound the post, or bring it out to the perimeter. Has he guarded Dirk before? Melo is like Dirk, but much more well rounded imo.

Watch more NBA games. Melo can't guard shit. And he disappears in the playoffs. No wonder nobody's expecting them to take the Northwest again this year.

What the hell do those SI people think, letting Melo hog the cover when he's got at his side someone receiving a ring at the opener and someone who's already a shoo-in for MVP candidacy?

>>20791

But then there are waaaay many times they gambled and got a gamebreaker. That's what Melo's missing. He can't dictate the outcome of games like Bron-Bron does... and don't even get started with comparing to Wade.

Speak for yourself. You probably haven't even watched any of the Clippers-Nuggets series last year. Lebron and DWade doesn't draw double and triple teams as much as Carmelo does. Besides, you saw a more fair evaluation of Carmelo at the world championship. With the same team around them, he's clearly the best scorer out of the three.

I didn't see your Nuggets advancing in the playoffs. Hence, "disappear" seems to be apt.

And cmon, those stats from 82games, you really didnt read the qualifications for the stat, did you? It clearly says "Game Winning Shot Opportunity = 24 seconds or less left in the game, team with the ball is either tied or down by 1 to 2 points."

So he can hit some last shots. So what? What about the rest of the other minutes of other fourth quarters where you see Denver squandering leads or just getting dumped? There are more intricacies to a basketball game, my friend, than stats from 82games.com. Besides, you really throw away stats during crunch time... Melo did, apparently...

Case in point: Let's see; you pointed out the LAC/Den 1st rd matchup - which I'd like to remind you your Nuggets lost 1-4 boo hoo). Melo averaged an astounding 26.5 ppg in the reg. season. Playoffs? 21.0ppg. There's a disappearance right there.

And don't get started on Melos D that series; he was guarding frickin' Quentin Ross and a back-spasm-plagued Corey Maggette (who btw dropped 23,19,23 on him in G3,4,5 respectively). So yeah. I'd be damn proud of his D, too.

Best scorer? I dunno. Some nights, maybe. Ask, yourself, why the heck aint he getting the doubles and triples when Denver's got such a perimeter-awful and godforsakenly-thin roster (ok maybe not that thin anymore)? Because the other teams are on to Melo. He's talented, but geez.

Don't worry, you could always play the Nuggets (or draft and surround Melo with Team USA) and live your Melo dreams in NBA Live 07 or NBA 2k7.

uhm. i think he does draw some double-teams... but then his assists should be up then? maybe the reason he's not the best among those 3 is dat he can't involve teammates the way james does, and he's not that good breaking from multiple defenders like wade is...

anyway, Darko ftw. shoulda been on teh cover too... even if its just a speck of his hair XDDD

82games.com also points out that Denver #15 gets 20% of his inside, non-dunk shots blocked. if he's the best scorer... that certainly explains the sad state of USAB.

yep, whoever had the idea for this stupid cover must be a real melo-tard. no respect whatsoever -_-; whoever he is needs to be shot.

>>So he can hit some last shots. So what?
There's no better way to dictate the outcome of the game than to be a clutch shooter at the end of the game.

>>Ask, yourself, why the heck aint he getting the doubles and triples when Denver's got such a perimeter-awful and godforsakenly-thin roster
You obviously don't watch the Nuggets. He gets doubled consistently during the regular season in the post and the gets doubled consistently from everywhere during the playoffs and tripled in the post. If you just watched the playoffs in the past 2 years, you would've noticed that they usually put the best defender on him when he doesn't have the ball (Quentin Ross, Bruce Bowen), then doubles him immediately when he receives the ball (Kittles and Manu outside, Brand and Duncan inside).

Another thing, I never said he was the best player out of the three but he was the best scorer of the three. IMO, Lebron is still the best overall player out of the three, DWade 2nd, Melo 3rd. However, in terms of pure scoring both inside and out, Melo is the best of the bunch.

>>Don't worry, you could always play the Nuggets (or draft and surround Melo with Team USA) and live your Melo dreams in NBA Live 07 or NBA 2k7.
When comparing two players, or anything else for that matter, you need to have the same conditions apply to both to get a fair evaluation. If you watched the WBC, which doesn't seem to be the case for you, you'd easily noticed that Melo was the best scorer of the bunch.

>>Because the other teams are on to Melo.
If teams are on to anything, it's that other Nuggets can't score and if you contain Melo and dare others to make open jumpers, it's over. There's many analysis of why the Nuggets lost the past 3 years in the playoffs and it's the same every year: double/triple Anthony.

Truth. Melo is terrible at ballhandling in general and he looks really silly whenever he gets stripped down low.

numbers and understanding of the game will never win over the overzealousness of a fan. he'll stick to his man no matter what.

i say until melo gets his ring, there is no way that cover isn't blasphemous.
