What does /sp/ think of the Blazers?
It'd be interesting to hear an unbiased perspective (i.e. not from Portland)

Not yet.

They aren't going to be as good as everyone thinks they'll be. Nate Macmillan isn't all that great of a coach. He got far too much credit for that desperation year when they got into the second round of the playoffs.
>> Anonymous
greg oden the next patrick ewing. OVERRATED AS FUCK!
>> Anonymous
I agree, I think he's a terrible coach.
He refuses to coach a running team, which is what a young team would do better than anybody...

And this year the Blazers didn't meet their potential because McMillan doesn't have any good plays drawn up in his book; so it all ends up being people that heave up 3-pointers.

I'm glad someone agrees with me and see the obvious.

Giving that he has to coach in the same conference as phil jacksona and greg popovich the Blazers will be playoff underachievers but will most likely make the playoffs every year.

I think if they could get a good PG they'd be better off.

LAfag here. I fucking fear them.

I don't care about Oden. The key for them is Lamarcus Aldridge. Based from what I've seen when they played the Lakers and the nationally televised games they has, he is gonna be a beast for years to come and they have a bunch of young guys that can develop into solid contributors.
>> Anonymous
>>127973

He is kinda boring but I don't get all the Tim Duncan comparisons, besides the fact they like to bank shots in.

Anyways they won't do much next season and will probably miss the playoffs again, they're time will come in 2/3 years. I can see them being like a Pistons team where there's no superstar and they all equally contribute to the scoring.

great potential

They most likely won't make the playoffs next season, competing against Denver and GS for that 8th seed, but they will be scary good in the future. Lots of young talent, and getting Oden in the draft will make them competitors for years to come.
>> Anonymous
>GS

I really they going be shit next year, Baron will likely sign with another team, same with Monta Ellis, they probably won't even resign Biedrins.
>> Anonymous
Fire Nate and hire D'Antoni.
>> Anonymous
>>128039
well ya', I'm just assuming they still have the core. If they won't even be contenders, then it's safe for Denver to make it.
>> Anonymous
There's still questions about GSW's chances at competing, even assuming that Ellis and Baron will stay.

1. Can they still run at break neck pace? The Suns could do it for 3 and a half years, but unlike D'Antoni Nellie does not balance out the minutes for the guys in rotation, so you see guys constantly logging 40+ minutes. It would make a nice looking stat sheet what with 4 guys scoring 20, but any players would be going nuts/bust a kneecap doing this 82 times a year.

2. Will Baron stay healthy?

3. They still have no rebounder aside from Biedrins. Will Nellie give Wright any playing time, or is he just going to bury him like he did with Diogu and O'Bryant? Even if they solve the rebounding issue, how are they going to address their weakness at guarding PFs?

4. Speaking of Biedrins, I don't get the hype about this guy. Sure he's tall and runs well which makes him a good fit for the dubs, but what does he do aside from a couple of blocks and scoring off uncontested rolls? Defensively the team seem worse when he's on the floor, at least when he's not on the court GSW can play scrappier defense when they go small.

5. They still don't have much of a half court game. Even when the Suns were a running team Marion can finish off any passes Nash throws at him and Amare is an unstoppable dunker in a half court set. Getting Webber failed, so what next?

As for Portland, they got a good road ahead of them, though whether Nate could turn out to be the next Mike Brown remains to be seen.

back to being irrelevant.

>>128065
Webber was always a failure. After the phantom timeout in his college days, I just knew he would have a fail career.
>> Anonymous
>>128095
I can't help but think that if the ref just called him for that obvious travel, he would have never made that stupid timeout, and would be completely forgettable.
>> Anonymous
I think they're awesome because they took Greg Oden.
>> Anonymous
>>128108
Greg Oden is a bonus player IMO. After the way they played this season, this team has showed a lot of promise and success even if they didn't have Oden, but since they do, they will be that much better.

Another young team with future success is the 76ers also. That team looks scary
>> Anonymous
What could Webber's career be like had he played alongside Shaq instead of getting traded to GSW?
>> Anonymous
>>128139
their potential would have probably been limited since they both would have crowded each other's area. the only way it might have worked was if webber played in the high post and shot jumpers and passed with shaq dominating the middle

>the only way it might have worked was if webber played in the high post and shot jumpers and passed

did you ever actually watch webber play? that's 95% of his game.

roy = fundamental player. and as we look at duncan and roy, fundamentals deliver

lamarcus = lots of potential, might be next elton brand

oden = better be what people say he is

but in a tight conference where seeds 1-11 are only a few games apart, they bettet not play just like playoff contenders, but championship contenders
>> Anonymous
I think even without Oden, this is a team with a good future. They were competitive this year with all young players. Give them some proper development time and you could have a good six year playoff run with the current roster.
On a related note, I am still pissed the Bulls kept Thomas and dumped Aldridge for noting. Fucking Bulls.
>> Anonymous
blazers, is that a new expansion team?
>> Anonymous
ryan, is that you?

anyways, roy is a fucking beast. we're going to be talking about him vs cp3 and deron for best in the game soon enough. he plays incredibly smart, has excellent game control, and can get anywhere on the floor he wants.

lamarcus is a beast, i thought outlaw was headed for big things but he seemed to disappoint a bit this year. oden in the mix next year will make things really interesting.

i think they need a 3pt specialist to line-up opposite roy in the back court. with roy breaking down the d and having the option to score, dish to oden/lamarcus inside, or kick out to a money 3 baller, they could be very dangerous.

still not sure they make the playoffs next year. the west is too jam packed. even if they do, first round exit.
>> Anonymous
I like them. I haven't seen many of their games, but they seem to have talent, youth, and potential. I think if Outlaw's numbers continue to go up and Oden doesn't suck, they could definitely be a perennial playoff team.
>> Anonymous
outlaw = too inconsistent

oden = nothing proven yet; could be great, could be bad

as for roy, the blazers need to find a legit pg. it's been said that roy would rather play sg. he just is an overachiever.

good potential though. rumors about baron davis to portland?

BORING?! WATCH THIS

http://youtube.com/watch?v=xvLneb_iBIA
>> Anonymous
I dunno, when you consider how old a lot of the teams in the west are, the Blazers could have a chance...

Denver and GS - will rebuild most likely

Phoenix and Dallas - just fired their coaches and will probably get younger players soon

Houston and San Antonio - stale

Then again you have teams like LA, Jazz, and NOH who are all on the rise.
