Okay...first of all: I've lived in/near Detroit since I was born, and I've been a wings fan since I was three. I haven't missed a wings game on tv/radio/in person in three years...as lame as that makes my social life to be. I am no bandwagoner. If I were, I'd be talking about the Tigers right now, since they're the new hot ticket in Detroit.
As for being a midwesterner...well,I supppose you've got me there. Oh no.
I'm sorry but I just refuse to think that way. Even when he was kicking the shit out of the wings (and when Osgood and Vernon were kicking the shit out of him) I could still admit that Roy was a fantastic goalie. I hated him for it, yeah. But I didn't go around saying he was overated.
What you're describing is a conformation bias. It's a horrible way to approach any argument.
CaptialistBastard: Yes. Crosby won a lot of hardware last year. But you know what? If he won thirty hart trophies and thirty Rocket Richard trophies, but never the Cup, he'd be remembered as "the best player who's name isn't on the Cup."
Until Crosby wins a Cup he's only a very good player. Not a great one.
Maybe my problem is I have too much faith in people's abilities to engange in meaningful discussion, and not be retarded...
