Its pieces went on to create football/basketball gold wherever they went.

Except Arkansas. Fuck Arkansas.

Agreed. We all were cheating so much the field was totally even. And TCU won national championships (plural), WTF.

>>19380
Yeah, the only team to come out of that conference that's actually won a basketball championship.

Which won as many national titles after 1970 as the MAC.

A good bit better. The MWC is widely considered the best of the non-BCS conferences, most years about as good as the Big East. TCU has thumped a sizable portion of the Big 12 (Minus Texas), BYU dominates the Pac-10, and Utah was the first BCS buster, dominating the Big East champion. Top heavy, but still excellent. C-USA's champ got obliterated by the #2 team in the Big East.

Break up the Big 12, put back together the SWC with the addition of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and LSU, and make a new power conference.

Mostly true, except breaking up the Big 12 is just retarded. They're just as scary as the SEC these days, from the top (Texas/Oklahoma=Florida/Georgia) to the bottom (Baylor=Vandy).

The conference just doesn't get the same press, cuz it's not on a coast.

>BYU dominates the Pac-10

Since when did the #1 team in the MAC beating the #5 Pac-10 by one point = domination of the entire conference?
>> Anonymous
>>20396
BYU is in the mWc, the Mountain West, not the Mid-American. And I think he was saying that BYU, being a member of the Mountain West Conference, still dominates the Pac-10, because the Pac-10 sucks gigantic sweaty donkey balls.

Amirite?

>>20398
mac, mwc... who gives a shit about these mid majors who can barely compete against the #5 team in a real conference?

>>20402
YOU will give a shit when a MWC team turns into a C-C-C-Combo Breaker.

>>20380
Not throwing the defending National Champions, LSU in there? With a lineup like my proposed SWC reunion would have, we'd have all of the strength, with none of the Kansas State. We still have cupcakes (Hi, Rice) but at least they suck in Texas.

>>20396
BYU also stomped Oregon the year before. Fact is, the surprisingly mighty mormons go toe to toe with the Pac-10 just about every year, and more often than not, they come out on top.

>>20411
The SWC needed to die because it was only in Texas (one Ark. team) and no one outside Texas gave a shit. With the Big 12, it's spread out over six states, giving it a much more epic feel, and the ability to compete with traditional cults, I mean conferences, the SEC and Big Eleven.

No SEC team would ever leave that cash-cow, but remember the current Big 12 line-up is only ten years old. And remember when it was first formed, it was the NORTH that was the unstoppable powerhouse. K/K-State have gone to bowls, and have beaten good teams. Texas Tech may not compete for the national championship, but they go to a bowl EVERY year.

And unlike other BCS conferences, the Big 12 can beat MWC teams.

>>20411
FACT: The Mountain West deserves an auto-BCS berth as much as the Big East does.

Big East's football schedules since 2005 have been a JOKE.

Hey guys. How about that Oklahoma/Iowa State/Texas Tech/Baylorx2 game, huh? 5-1 against the Big 12. Also Arkansas would leave the SEC in a heartbeat to be in the big 12 and have its traditional rival (Texas) back and be able to recruit with ease in Texas again. Baylor out, Arkansas or TCU in.

UT AUSTIN. FUCK YEAH

Arkfag here, no we wouldn't, we hated the SWC where the texas refs were usually good for stealing one or two games a year and nobody liked us for being the odd man out in a conference of 8/9 texas teams. Not that half the SEC doesn't realize we've joined the conference, but at least our athletic department is rolling around in piles of money, and even if our rep suffers from being in the toughest conference in the country, we're so much better off than being in the big XII.
>> Anonymous
>>20494
Fellow Arkfag, isn't it better to be screwed out of a game than it is to not be able to play your traditional and most hated rival every year? I know that you must be as sick of not playing Texas and A&M as I am. We can schedule them out of conference as much as they'll allow, but they know we have so much more to gain by beating them than they do by beating us. And the rivalry matters to us. I'd rather beat Texas than win the SEC West any day, and I know a lot of alums who'd agree with me.

>>20513
Don't get me wrong, I'm just as fixated as the rest of hog fans on beating texas, but the SWC was a bad spot - little national exposure, run by people who thought we didn't need to be in the conference, etc. I don't like that we had to give up the rivalry by which we defined ourselves, either, but I think it is an acceptable price to pay for where we've come as a program since we got into the SEC. I guess a&m will have to hold us over, and we'd better enjoy the game this year, because if (when?) we shock 'em, AGAIN, they'll probably refuse to play us for many years.

Fix'd.

>>20527
S'what I'm saying, dear pig brother. If we played in the Big 12, we'd have (more or less) equal national exposure, and the pipeline into the home of all of those talented Texas tykes. Tykes who'll know that if they go to Arkansas, mom and dad will be able to watch every game on TV, and have an excellent shot to win the Big 12 and beat a hated rival... rather than finish third/fourth in the SEC West every year and win a made up trophy game once in a while. Beat Texas, and you can recruit Texas. Nutt and Stoops've both proved that.

SEC has the biggest TV deal and gets more national attention (rightly or wrongly) than the Big 12. That's why everyone wants to be in the SEC. Those fuckers.
