Overrated or MOST overrated coach in NBA history?

The guy has championships handed to him on a platter and people think he's some genius. First, the guy is given MJ who would have won several championships with Stan Van Gundy as the coach. I fail to see what's so impressive about winning with the greatest player of all time.

THEN he's given the 2nd greatest player of our time and Shaq. You can't get a championship any easier than this. After Shaq leaves, he fails hard because the 2nd greatest isn't quite the greatest and then gets Pau Gasol handed to him for nothing.

Yet people still act like he has something to do with it. When I watch these games, it seems like Kobe is the real coach and he might as well be. But again, they still have to be like "ohh well Phil Jackson has coached 0-2 situations before lol" I don't get it. I'm surprised he wasn't fired after the last 2 seasons and if he loses this, he's even more fail than I thought.

MJ wasn't the only reason that the Bulls were successful. It took them quite a while to really get rolling. Pip, Rodman, etc.

Phil Jackson should be credited with helping in the creation of the legendary Bulls team.

Dude, he's like a buddhist or something. That makes him insightful and shit.

While the 90s Bulls and the 00 Lakers were full of veterans, Phil Jackson was able to make his system work for the team and has alot of say over the roster makeup. Even when he was constantly engaged in verbal duels with Jerry Krause, he convinced team management to add more big men, and while none of them are HoF material, they play great defense and rebounding which played a part in their title run. The Lakers were able to start winning when they add more shooters with Jerry Rice and Brian Shaw. When you are talking about coaching, he isn't the architect of any system, but he is able to teach his team the fundamentals of team offense and team defense, which makes him the anti-D'Antoni. Most importantly, he's a great motivator. You see coaches that are lax and is satisfied with their team even though they make tons of mistakes like Flip and Isiah, you see coaches that are too controlling like Avery and Skiles, you rarely see a coach that knows how to balance between letting the players find their own path and pulling the leash to adjust their errors.

Having Jordan and Shaq/Kobe made things easier, but you don't become the coach with the most playoff wins if you can't make adjustment.

he didn't even make the triangle offense. Saying he's better than red is like saying kobe is better than jordan, its like spitting on the game of basketball and raping it in the ass

Jordan didnt win shit for four years until Phil arrived as his head coach. Shaq and Kobe didn't win shit together until Phil took over the helm. Phil had something to do with it.

My cock could've coached Shaq/Kobe to an NBA title.

How could the leagues most dominate player, combined with one of the leagues best scorers, NOT WIN A TITLE??

Phil has done great things for both Bulls/Lakers, and even had players that once played under him go on to become better individuals, but i'm not convinced he was the deciding factor as to why Kobe/Shaq won those titles.

He got a good deal with those two

/sp/, choking one game really badly doesn't throw you into the overrated category. And I hope none of you think Doc Rivers has anything to do with it either.

Just a few days ago people here were salivating over The Zen Master

think how things would have been diffrent if he would have went to the kings, or the pacers after the bulls

they defenitley would have won chapionships

you're wrong

brady, belicheat, etc ARE overrated

but good lord, when randy moss actually tries he's a fucking beast. he's cut up so many secondaries it's not even funny. i hate the team, but goddamn you gotta be stupid if you think moss isn't one of the best receivers EVER

and kobe isn't overrated and neither is jackson. although it'll always be brought up with jackson b/c of him having the best players.

but guess what? all great coaches have great players, that's what makes them great: they can elevate good players into great ones, and superstars into icons

Phils equivalent in terms of inheriting talent and winning with it.

For the record, this was made before he blew a 24 point lead but you're right still. It's like some other post said though that I don't feel like quoting. If Jackson would have gone to the Pacers or some shit, he'd be a quasi successful EC coach and the Lakers still would have won with Shaq & Kobe.

The only coach that has ever won it all without any stars is Larry Brown, so I guess every other coaches that have won a title is overrated.

Yeah, when like every ESPN correspondent is spreading this propaganda trash that Kobe is better than MJ, I want to gouge my fucking eyes out. How is that not over rated, MJ is the greatest of all time and won all his Finals appearances even with the fuckin flu while Kobe chokes against 2 EC teams when he doesn't have Shaq to carry him along the whole way.

Well, as someone who doesn't really LIKE the Lakers but hates boston, this is a pretty unique situation.

Yeah Kobe definitely didn't have a good shooting game, nor did he take things over..but he also trusted [no, I don't think he's a good teammates] to get the lead early, and they did. When it fucking mattered though, they shot horribly. Jordan had teammates with experience, and if they didn't have the experience he got them the experience..Why can't Kobe do that? Well The Boston Celtics have 2 [I wish it would be three, I like ray] hall of famers, and one perennial all star and a really tight defensive team..Jordans teams never had to go up against a team THIS balanced.

What are you foxnews news rewriting history like that

jesus christ, if Kobe was on any other team you would NEVER EVER hear the MJ comparisons.

That's Lakers fans for you. Just keep saying things, no matter how fucking stupid and obvious they are. Sooner or later enough idiots will believe you and then you can pretend its true. Fuck, in ten years they will start saying
that the Lakers won the 2008 NBA Championship instead of choked and died.

I didn't say Kobe was as good as MJ, I do think he is a better offensive player than MJ though. Also, you quoted my part about the Bulls never going up against a team this balanced like it was wrong, but you didn't give me any kind of counter example..hmmm

I'm not even a Lakers fan, I live in South Carolina and the only games I've ever been to are 3 Bobcats games and a Hawks game. I wasn't even excusing the choke, but MJ MAY only be 'incapable' of doing it because he was never in this kind of situation, that's all I said. Calm down boston fan. Your team is winning....wait for it...
LEGITIMATELY!
