As far as drugs policy goes. Every other sport (particularly the rugby codes but also cricket, soccer, swimming etc) are what I'd call harsh. The AFL has a policy where you can test positive three times for an illegal substance before it can be announced to the press, let alone punished.
Also note that single clubs in the NRL like Brisbane do more tests in one year than the whole AFL sanctions in a season. It's a shambles. As has been said already, even the PM came out and called the AFl policy a joke.
Leaving self-obsessed Melbourne was the best thing I ever did tbh, certainly made me open my eyes.
