this is my problem with college football....

penn st just lost...and they lost to an unranked team now it seems almost completely out of the question for them to go to the national championship....fair enough......but usc has lost 2 a team with a similar record.....and everyone keeps sucking them off and hopes they are in the national championship...the big 10 is weak....but the pac 10 has to be the weakest conference among the major football conferences....complete bullshit....the top 4 or 5 teams in the big 12 and sec would destroy pac big 10

USC lost early in the season and Penn St lost late.

Also, USC is a dynasty type team over the last 5 or so years with multiple national titles and Heisman winners, not to mention an explosive offense and overpowering defense, and they tend to play VERY well in big bowls and out-of-conference games. Penn St has just been ok over the last few seasons and they aren't too exciting to watch.

(Not at all a USC fan, just saying it like it is.)

Should they find a way to knock off Penn State at home, the Spartans would force a three-way tie atop the Big Ten standings, but get the conference’s automatic bid to the Rose Bowl. The first tiebreaker doesn’t apply, since it deals with head-to-head records and all three teams would be 1-1 against each other.

The next criteria eliminates teams that played the most FCS teams (formerly I-AA) throughout the season. Ohio State and Penn State opened with FCS opponents, leaving the Rose Bowl berth for the Spartans.

just because teams have had great seasons in the past doesnt mean they should ge given the NC. there are many teams out there who play in much tougher divisions. usc gets off on technicalities...just pisses me off...

That's why I said "tend" and not "always." Besides, that was one of the greatest college football games in recent memory. They are exciting as fuck, even in defeat.

If MSU beats Penn State, that leaves MSU and OSU with 1 conference loss and Penn State with 2 conference losses.

Penn State becomes irrelevant, and OSU beats MSU on the tiebreaker.

Whatever article you've got there is now outdated because now Penn State lost to Iowa.
