Draft =/= Trade

I think you know what a trade is. Everyone trades players. The draft is just picking which amateur players will join the league, and in what order. Typically they pick in reverse order of the final standings, the worst team picks first.

... wait, was I just trolled? Go to Wikipedia, Eurofag.

Assuming OP isn't doing some weird attempt at being a troll...

Take the NFL, for example.

The draft is a two day when the NFL teams goes and basically picks up College players.

The team that finished with the worst record gets to pick first, the team that won the Superbowl gets to pick last.

There is 15 rounds.

When a team picks a player that team gets exclusive negotiation rights to that player.

The draft, in a nut shell.

Baseball's draft is awesome. It goes to 50 rounds, or until every team in the draft passes, where it can suddenly stop. So a team can draft twenty or 50, and there's a good chance you won't even see anyone from that draft year ever make it to the big leagues.

Because Baseball also looks at high schools

Ok... but I've heard things about trading draft "places" with other teams, something about one of the penalties the patriots got for spygate wouldn't effect them because they had another teams draft place or somethng like that

Baseball also has a massive minor league system that a team can sign 30 or so of their draftees and stash them somewhere. Football and the NBA draftees usually stay with the main teams, so they can't really afford to add more than a couple of people each year.

Any team can trade draft positions with another. San Francisco traded their first pick in 2008 to new England's first pick in 2007. San Francisco's record made that pick the 6th(?) pick in the draft. New England would have had the 31st pick, but that was taken from them. So New England could have had 2 first rounders. but LOLOLOL 18-1 and Spygate

Trading draft position is just like trading players, it all comes down to money. Especially because you can semi-accurately predict what you will be paying your draft pick based on position and past draft pick contracts.

For example, if a team (Team A) wanted to trade away an unhappy starter and had a third round draft pick, they might trade it to another team (Team B) for their draft pick near the first round.

Team A gets rid of their unhappy starter and can use their newly acquired high draft pick to draft a very good rookie, and Team B gets a proven starter and a consolation pick to possibly draft a decent player in the third round.

You can't trade draft picks in Baseball.
