God, I know it will probably happen, but if the Mets sign K-Rod, it will be a disaster. A save is one of the worst statistics in baseball in terms of measuring effectiveness (it's even worse than W-L record.) Based on more objective measures, K-Rod wasn't a top three closer this year. Also, the problem wasn't the Mets losing in the ninth- it was blowing the lead in the seventh and eighth innings. I'd much rather see them put money into signing the best setup guys, who would come much cheaper. Finding someone to be the closer among a group of good late inning pitchers is not difficult.
Of course, we're talking about Omar Minaya here. We'll have K-Rod and a whole new group of terrible middle relievers to make up the Failpen.
