Put down your bias and fail for a minute.

I have a serious question that will hopefully be answered with some sort of intelligence and not pure trolling. But meh, it is /sp/.

Ok the Patriots went 18-1. Losing, CHOKING LIKE ASSHOLES, in the Super Bowl. Does their 16-0 regular season mean ANYTHING. What about in 10 years, will that accomplishment get any respect? I know Mercury Morris, aka I'm High on Crack Morris, won't think highly of it, but what about the general NFL Public?
>> Anonymous
Means nothing.
>> Anonymous
This reminds me of the NBA. When a player is awarded the regular season MVP for having an amazing season and then does not get far in the playoffs people are quick to jump and claim they did not deserve the awards even though the playoffs hold no importance in regards to the MVP award.

I hate the Patriots but I'm not stupid enough to think going 16-0 in the regular season isn't an amazing accomplishment. The reason no one is giving them any respect is because they were cocky (trademarking 19-0...yeah have fun with that)and walked into the Super Bowl expecting to coast through, just to end up getting burned. They were a great team quite obviously and I'm of the opinion had they not gone undefeated they probably would have won that Super Bowl.

OP is full of win.
>> Anonymous
daunte + moss = 19-0
>> Anonymous
16-0 is still a pretty huge fucking accomplishment. This is coming from a Cardinalsfag.

OP here.

I do think that any "serious" fan, like some on /sp/, who isn't full of aids and bias will agree with you, as I do.

However what about the general public? And will it have a historical signifigance? Or will it only be signifigant as a footnote in the main article of "18-1: Biggest Choke Evarrr!"???
>> Anonymous
it is not hard to go 16-0, cause shitty teams dont care, they will throw games for higher draft pick. quality don't care cause they are already in the playoff and will rest players.
>> Anonymous
keep talking shit, they going to pull a Bulls and win another 6 championships.
>> Anonymous
>>23343
I'm a Pats fan, and 16-0 is a really awesome accomplishment, but the fact is they didn't win the big game. It's like yeah, we did amazing things in the regular season, but we just couldn't keep it up in the biggest game, the Super Bowl.
>> Anonymous
>>23345
Well sir, you fail.

Look at no other than the 16th win against the would-be Champions. And the "shitty teams" that you say don't care gave it there all. Towards the end of the season a lot of "shitty teams" came at the Pats with everything they had. At the time a lot of media were dubbing it "their superbowl" referring to these "shitty teams", and how bad they wanted to win, wanted to stop the perfect season.
>> Anonymous
>>23348
I think they are seperate facts. The Super Bowl was the biggest fail in sports history imho. I'm a Pats fan, and have been since a long time ago. Bledslow ftw! Who cares if you get sacked every other play, he had a hell of an arm!
>> Anonymous
They will go down with the likes of the 1934 & 1942 Bears and the 1948 Browns.

In other words, in a couple of years a distant "Who?" will come after saying their name.
>> Anonymous
So who made who better? Moss made Brady better or Brady made Moss better?
>> Anonymous
>>23357
The latter

In a few years when Moss is a #3 option and is facing charges in court, you'll agree.
>> Anonymous
>>23357
Moss made Brady better.
>> Anonymous
>>23362
You can feel that way, but history and reality don't agree.
>> Anonymous
>>23330

Well, the only game they couldn't lose they lost...

so no...
>> Anonymous
>>23390
What was Brady's previous career TD high before Moss?
What was it when Moss came in?

Exactly.
>> Anonymous
it means something like seattle's 116 wins means something.

lol.
>> Anonymous
>>23412
Are you serious? Look at the receivers he had, and look at the wins, and specifically the play-off/super bowl wins.

Exactly. Idiot.

16-0 perfect regular season still has meaning to me. 18-0 before the Super Bowl is better than the 17-0 the crappy Dolphins did.

Moss set the touchdown record but took 4 more games than Rice did therefore it's not legit.

Rice did it in 12 games, took Moss 16 therefore it's not legit.

Hey patsfag, there are 2 rankings after the season in football
1) Those who won the SB
2) Those who didn't
Enjoy being in the same tier as the dolphins.
>> Anonymous
>>23531
No. Not even close.Rice is in the top 5 all time, but not the best. Moss is faster, stronger, jumps way better and has almost as good hands. Just because he played longer does not make Rice better.
>> Anonymous
Regular season means nothing if you can't back it up when it counts. 18-1. You guys failed. And yes, I'm a Giants fan. I remember the days of Phil Simms and the horrible years of Dave Brown and Kent Graham. So don't give me any bandwagon shit.

Rice still leads ever single receiving category to my knowledge.
The ones that matter anyway.
How is he not the best?

What part of this post didn't you understand? Moss is one of only two receivers that I have ever seen completely dominate a game. Moss absolutely dominated like no one else did before or since him. His years with the Vikings nobody will ever match.

>>23598
I asked you to leave your faggotry and bias out of this.

I'm a Patsfag, and the Patriots were part of, the bad part btw, the biggest sports failure fuck up of all time.

I still say they had the best regular season evarrr. But my question is regarding the general Public's view of the Patriots in the near and not so near future.
>> Anonymous
>>23626
>>He just played the longest at a very high level.
um, hows does that not equal the best??
>> Anonymous
>>23656
He wasn't a more dominate player. Plain and simple. Who would you rather have on your team for the 5 or six prime years of their career? Your whole argument is Rice holds MOST of the records. Look at the huge list of players with better stats than Gayle Sayers. Now how many of them are better? Sayers is a top 5 all-time back.
>> Anonymous
>>23665

Sayers played 4.5 NFL seasons dude, with your logic Bo Jackson is also a top 5 RB.
>> Anonymous
>>23656
Keenan McCardell has more yards than T.O. does that make him better? No.
>> Anonymous
>>23675
Who is better than Sayers? Peyton, Jim Brown, maybe Barry Sanders. he was absolutely vicious.
>> Anonymous
>>23665
>>He wasn't a more dominate player
what does that even mean?
how does one measure dominance? i know you cant definitively do it with records, or even statistics for that matter, but holding almost every single major WR record in the NFL seems pretty dominant to me
>> Anonymous
>>23695
Who has more catches in one year? Look at any list of records in any sport and you eill see many players on there that are not the best. Who would you rather have on your team? I would take Moss over Rice. I would take T.O. over Rice. That is probably all I would take over Rice, but Moss is the better player. If he plays until he is 40 he will break most of Rices' records. How long they played is not the only measure of greatness. Look at Vinny Testavertie.

Who is better in their prime? Not to say Owens had a better career, but his best years were better. Sure he was a head case, but he was awesome.

>>23716

WHAT ARE YOU 12 YEARS OLD?

>> Anonymous
>>23716
>>you eill see many players on there that are not the best
id agree, as many records are held by not so great players that had one or two great seasons in their career. but once those records start adding up, its impossible to argue that he wasnt the best
go to wikipedia, look up jerry rice, and go to the Statistical dominance section. some of his numbers are mind boggling, especially considering the era he played in.
>> Anonymous
>>23729

Just stop. You've lost. How do you define Moss as the most "dominant" player if he was never able to propel his team to a championship level until he was traded to a team that was already the favorite to win the Super Bowl?
>> Anonymous
pass interference was practically nonexistent in jerry rice's day. most people dont bother to notice this. imagine owens or moss trying to perform back in the 80s when they could get pounded on by the defense. no way theyd put up the same numbers that rice did.

MOSS STOPS PLAYING HARD WHEN GAMES ARE IMPORTANT.

Oh that Randy!!
>> Anonymous
I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but Jerry Rice holds the record for receiving yardage in a season. That alone tells you that he wasn't just a very good player who happened to play for a long time. When he was in his prime, he was the most dominant receiver to ever play the game. End of discussion.
>> Anonymous
>>23742

So true passing is becoming easier each year, all stupid rules to protect the QB and the WR...In a few years time a 1000yard rushing season will be a huge achievement as teams simply wont run the ball anymore
>> Anonymous
16-0 is still a great feat and I hate the Pats to death. Still they did have a greater collaspe thet sort of encompasses it.
