What an athlete. I saw Chris Hoy 6 years ago at the Manchester Commonwealth Games and he was on fire then. Track cycling as with many other events (like almost all of them) is very exciting to watch

So now I ask you....

Why the hell is football (soccer) britain's national sport?

Not only does it consist mainly of girly bitching and trying to fake the most epic injuries when players barely get scratched... we actually suck hardcore at the actual game

What's the point?

I just wish we could have a more intresting sport to go nuts about. Americans actually have the right idea with taking intrest in more exciting sports to watch like Basketball, Baseball and American Football

Can't we just drop the football thing now?

Its not as glamorous as football.

You know the UK only cares about gossipy drama llama shit, there is no gossip with cycling.

Brits are in large part some of the best cyclists in the sport. You have to ignore stupid events like the Tour de France to see it though. Brits excel in the cycling events in the olympics because they crave the strategy it takes to win them. The team chase event really showed how good a team they have, and smart to boot.

Soccer just gets too much press because of how much money is dumped into the sport. There's nothing similar to it in Europe, so it dominates. In the US, we've got 3-4 sports (if you wanna count hockey) that dominate in money and attention.

Better to spread things out like you said, than have all your eggs in one basket.

sorry man, football takes skill as well as physical endurance. The only other non skill based sport I can stand is track.

England has the best football league in the world.

Deal with it.

Nobody said it wasn't the PREMIER LEAGUE (pun intended). It's that BRITS competing in the sport are not the top of the game. That's truth, and just look at world cups and other competitions that don't include recruiting people from other countries to play for them.

I think the point is that someone is just kind of amazed at how interesting other sports are, but dumb britfags would rather just pay attention to 1 thing, that they're obviously not the best at without help from other nations.

Baseball...more exciting that football?

not necessarily only for Britain and I was thinking about this as well.

there are so many wonderful sports around, but only the major ones with commercial opportunities make it into the media having it shuved on our faces everyday. obviously the media wants to focus onto these major sports that people will put their attention on hence it's sort of CASH RULES EVERYTHING AROUND ME CREAM cycle that just goes on.

(as for Britain, last time any GB nation won the World Cup was at 1966 England World Cup and only one counting + they don't play well at international level)

That's a valid point. I think diversity is a good thing, and watching NCAA stuff in the US really helps break up the monotony of the shit that goes for top tier sports. You'll usually find people that are more dedicated in those sports as well, even though they usually can't make a living out of it.

Playing to be good and enjoy it, is different than playing for a paycheck. Look at Beckham :)

Baseball, it doesn't get more boring than that.

Words cannot describe how happy I'd be if Rugby became our 'national' sport.

England aren't that bad a team, they're just not overly good. They're a hell of a lot better than a lot of the shit that got into Euro 2008, the only reason the didn't is because they had Croatia and Russia in their qualifying group, who are both good teams.
