The Designated Hitter Anonymous
Why do some people hate the DH so much? What's wrong with it? I always hear people wanting to abolish the DH entirely but the way I see it they should adopt it in the NL. I mean, every NL game I see includes the managers having to juggle their rosters around and put in a pinch hitter for the pitcher anyway. Why not just make it an official rule since that's how every team plays the game anyway? Or even make it elective, so if you happen to have a pitcher who is also a great hitter, you could keep him in, but otherwise you can have someone else?

Yeah I know, the difference is that pro-DH people actually have a reason (pitchers suck at hitting and rarely hit anyway because they'll just get a pinch hitter), whereas anti-DH people have no reason at all.

Now, now...even though I don't mind the DH, I know trying to preserve tradition is a good argument. Even in an era when absolutely nothing is sacred.

wisdom.

DH is against the fundamentals of baseball. You take the field, you bat. No Exceptions. Or thats the way I see it. Its like being allowed to field 12 men on a football field if your Quarterback sucks.

I don't like the managerial aspect of it either. It makes the game too simple. I love seeing those situations where you don't know if the manager is gonna keep the ace pitcher in or put in the big bat off the bench. It cleaves the offensive and defense aspects of baseball, which is lame as hell.

If I was GM there would be no DH.

I love it when pitchers kill rallies in the second inning.

DH logic extended

9 fielders only. 9 hitters. Separate players. Best Hitters hit. Best Fielders field.

Will allow for specialization from an early age too. Imagine short stops that only practice fielding for 20 years without hitting? Or batters that never worry about throwing mechanics but only pitch recognition for 20 years? Improvement to the game, right?

No. It's lame. DH are lame. Why treat pitchers as special flowers?

Babe played in an era before pitchers went nuts with technique and speed, it wasn't much different than any other position training wise. Plus the Yankees put him in the outfield to focus on his bat.

BTW one guy 100 years ago can't kill an argument

Comparing it to football is idiotic because no one plays more than one position in football. With a few exceptions, there aren't any WRs that also play corner or safety, nor do you have interchangeable offensive and defensive linemen unless a team is truly desperate from injuries or something.

I could actually respect the idea of no DH if pitchers were REQUIRED to bat and couldn't have a pinch hitter subbed in.

Because every pitcher is like Babe Ruth?

Babe Ruth is a shitty example too, he was so good at batting, they made him an outfielder.
