For some reason I feel like Baltimore or Oakland will make a big move...maybe Houston or Atlanta also. Probably to pick up some of the players I'm indifferent to. That's what you think, the Red Sox have a interest in Teixeira that always have whenever he came up in trade talks the Red Sox were right there, now they just have to spend money and not give up prospects to get him. Signing Teixeira would be the best thing the Red Sox could do to help the offense, move Youk to 3rd and Teixeira at 1st. Trade Lowell, signing Lowell last year hurt the Red Sox "offense" by signing him to 3 years. At this point they'd rather have Teixeira and trade Lowell off and pay some of his salary. Also Teixeira helps out Ortiz by protecting him more in the lineup.

So don't count the Red Sox of the Teixeira race yet.

Yes, the Red Sox can outbid them if they wanted, they are losing alot of payroll off the books this year as well. Yes, the Yankees want Teixeira but the Yankee's main target is Sabathia and they will go all out for him, Tex is second on there list if not 3rd after Burnett.

>Ben Sheets- Milwaukee
Absolutely no way in hell that we even offer him a contract. He wants money in the range of Jake Peavy, and his record and ERA will command that type of cash, but there's no way the Brewers will even attempt to match any team's offers on a guy like Sheets who, although he can be a shutdown starter, more often than not is on the sidelines missing starts. Think about it, the Brewers FRANCHISE PLAYER of the last 7 years spent the most magical month in 26 years on the sideline, and didn't even pitch in the Philly series. There's no way we even give him a contract with us trying to re-sign Sabathia.

>I think K-Rod is better than Rivera at this point anyway.
Well you would be wrong.
Saves = Nothing

>Why not sign K-Rod and have him for the next few years, with Rivera's retirement on the horizon?
Because the Yankees are not signing Fransisco Rodriguez who wants MORE money than Mariano to have him set up.
Plus, I doubt K-Rod would want to set up anyway.

Please grow a mind, the Yankees need STARTING pitchers and a first baseman, they're not blowing all their money on an overrated, overpriced, unnecessary Closer

Red Soxfag here.

K-Rod has no chance of signing with the Yankees this winter and for the simply reason that they don't need him. Rivera is sick, and I mean nasty. This year was his best year and he may be "old" but he hasn't lost anything pitching wise.

>Buster Olney: Dave -- they'll make him an offer they're comfortable with -- say, 6 years, $18 million a year -- but they won't sniff the 10/200 that has been rumored. If the Red Sox or Orioles take Teixeira much higher than the Yankees, I don't think they'll chase it. On the other hand, all bets are off when it comes to CC -- they'll go crazy to get him.

I hope the O's get him....but in all honesty...he will want to play for a winner.
>> Detroiter !zg3qAF9X/E
>>426208
I do hate the Yankees. But Rivera has 1 year left in him, more than likely. Why not pick up the best closer available right now, rather than wait for next year when, for what I can tell, no real closers will be there. Especially when you have the money to go after him AND everything else you need. I'm not saying they will, but I'm saying...why not. Plus he gets a lot of media attention as it is, why not bring him into that market?
>> Detroiter !zg3qAF9X/E
>>426209
zomg they have Joba. If you haven't payed attention...Steinbrenner's want nothing to do with Joba closing...they're going to put him in the rotation whether he(or anyone) likes it or not.

He's still better than K-Rod.

Haha, I see Milwaukee fans still have shit for brains.

First thing the Giants need to do is get a reliable bullpen arm. Then all they need to do is find someone who'll take Winn (high average) and Molina (Consistent offense + throws out runners at high %) for anything reasonable. Then trade for a stick at third.

This alone will have us contend next year as we play in the NL Worst. '09 needs to be what '08 should've been, that is developing the rooks and not making any stupid moves. With our revamped farm, the Giants are serious contenders in 2010+.
