Rickey Henderson - 130 steals in a season(high), 1,406 in career. (25 seasons)

José Reyes - 78 steals in a season(high) , 234 in career. (5 seasons, NOT including this season) (Not even 25 years old.)

Henderson averaged about 56 steals a season..
Reyes so far is averaging 46 a season, including 2 seasons where he started under 70 games in each, and was age 20 and 21).

I think Reyes has a serious shot at breaking Rickey's career numbers..

What I also noticed..
After Henderson turned 24, his stolen base numbers went down pretty much every year.. His total stolen bases by that time was 328..
So only 1,078 of his stolen bases were after age 24..

Meanwhile, Reyes is still 24, and his stolen base nunbers have been increasing every season he has played.
(13, 19, 60, 64, 78, from 2003 to 2007)
I'd say that his stolen base numbers will increase until he is 26, where it will top out at about 95.
After that, his numbers will decrease, maybe dropping 5 each season. If he plays until he is 40, his total will be at around.. 1,513, atleast that's the way I calculated it..

Well, that's true. He DID play from when he was 20 until he was like, 44?

But what I'm saying is, other than when Henderson was age 20-24, he had less stolen bases per year than Reyes..

If Reyes plays until he is atleast 40, he has a shot..
>> Anonymous

If Reyes can still steal bases at 39 like he can in his low 20s, he fucking deserves it.

George Hainsworth.

Holder of the greatest record in sports history. Nothing compares to what he has accomplished.

In 1928-29 he set two records for goaltending that will never be challenged. He turned in 22 shutouts in 44 games.

In monkey speak, that the mathematical chances this happens again are the same as an NBA player scoring 894 points in a game.

Greatest. Record.

Yeah, I forgot about all the nice pitching records that now look rediculous in history because stud starters could go 20 innings, and pitch 4-5 times a week.

The hitting streak is just so gaudy, like the 30 point-40 rebound games a couple of the old nba centers had.

While I think someone some day could break 100 points in an nba game (see: the nugget's 145 point performance in regulation in 2008, kobe pulling down 80 in 3 quarters, 3-point field goals, etc.), I can't see anyone touching the hit streak.

Just some pitching records that will NEVER be broken:

Single Season Records:

Wins - Charles Radbourn with 59 Wins (and only 12 losses wtf)

Losses - John Coleman with 48 Losses (lol Barry Zito fails at failing)

Strikeouts - Matt Kilroy with 513 in a season.

Complete Games - Will White with 75 complete games. He started 75 games and appeared in 76.

ERA - Dutch Leonard with 0.96

Also, Cy Young was a beast. He made 815 starts in his career (overall made 905 appearances) and finished with the following for those who don't know:
Wins - 511
Losses - 316
Complete Games - 749
Shutouts - 76
Innings Pitched - 7354
Saves - 17
Strikeouts - 2803
ERA - 2.63

They called it the dead ball era, not the big park era.

INTERESTING FACT: Several parks of that time had center field walls at less than 300 feet.

Forbes Field wasn't built until 1909, many years into the dead ball era. Many of the fields in use before and during this time had much shorter fences, and were much smaller parks in general.

is partially right. Forbes was a big park. Bennett Field, where the Tigers played, had corners at 320 and 290 feet. Even Tiger Stadium's short right porch was longer at 325.

Comerica Park nowadays is at 350 and 330 in the corners.

I never claimed it wasn't boring to watch, just that claiming triples were caused by the large parks of the era was wrong, because that reason didn't exist.

Parks actually tended to get bigger once they corked the ball (1911), when they outlawed the spitter and the scuffball (1920), and again when they lowered the mound (1969), to counteract the increased threat of power hitting.

There were some early freaky-big parks like the Polo Grounds and Forbes, but they were famous exceptions.
