goodnight sweet prince Anonymous
after midnight west coast time willie randolph was fired, along with his pitching coach rick peterson, and the first base coach

new manager is jerry manuel

i guess omar wanted to make sure he had a manager that talked spanish considering most of the fucking team doesn't speak english
>> Anonymous
Fucking niggers. They give Isiah 4 years and this guy what 2? Shit..

As a metsfag, I don't know what to think. I'm not sure whether or not it was an issue of coaching or the players being too fucking rich for their own good and sleeping with their fucking sombreros tipped over their eyes. Either way I hope that this brings a change (it probably won't) and we finish above .500 (not going to happen).

Willie's been on the chop block since the end of last year. He sucks, everyone hates him, and he's done nothing but find more ways for the Mets to lose hard in the last few months.

And I totally agree, Omar is doing nothing but building Los Mets. We have a bunch of illiterate border hopping, cuban refugee, piece of shit beaners.
>> Anonymous
i was born into being a mets fan, so team failure is nothing new. this team is so different though, hardly the team of hernandez, knight, backman, darling, elster, dykstra, straw, hojo, gooden.

this team has the talent, and i hope they can turn it around. hopefully manuel can actually show some emotion and yell at the rich foreigners in their own tongue when they fuck up and get their ass in gear
>>
>>166073
It was completely an issue with coaching. Willie loves to do completely retarded crap like throw scrubs (blowenweis) on the mound when we're in trouble, and using other garbage relievers consistently. We have a pimp starting rotation, but after 6 innings it's open season on us and Willie, with his Subway Pastrami footlong, doesn't know what the hell to do after that.

hey metsfags

omar minaya doing news conference on sny nao

OMG that's Muchacho Fracaso Épico!
>> Anonymous
Funny how people think latino = fail at baseball. Big Papi, Manny, Vlad, Ozzie, anyone? All on first place teams.
>> Anonymous
>>166685
Minaya is a smug asshole.
>> Anonymous
>>166708
yeah he is

pti just called him a liar
then called steinbrenner an idiot
>> Anonymous
>>166690
Funny how latino is every team.

>>166708
However I do think Minaya justified way too many signings in his head because the player was Latin. There are other problems, but this was one I assure you.
>> Anonymous
>>166714
Steinbrenner is an idiot.

Well, Hank is, George is just crazy.

Hank said that the DH rules was from the 1800s. Try 1972.
>> Anonymous
Jerry Manuel is black as hell.
>> Anonymous
is the new coach black or latino? i can't tell, looks like old black guy to me
>> Anonymous
>>166727

Black. Born in Georgia.
>> Anonymous
>>166735
is he gonna scream at players, or be more like bill cosby about critique?
>> Anonymous
>>166738

Probably closer to Cosby.

TOW copypasta:

His 2003 Topps baseball card says on it, "Jerry has a philosophical air about him that makes him a sage influence and respected leader on his teams. After six seasons directing the White Soxs fortunes, he's risen to fourth on the franchise's managerial wins list. Formerly, he was a pro player for 15 years and 12-year coach/Minor League manager. Manuel and Ken Williams form the first African-American GM/manager tandem in MLB history."

>>166741
you watching his presser?

i like him, seems very intelligent, or it's the glasses

just said he'd love to see pitchers that say don't take the ball from me until the game is over, wants to see them be able to throw 120 pitches. fucking win
>> Anonymous
>>166745

Yeah, this is probably best case scenario as he already is on the team, and knows all the players. It will probably work out.
>> Anonymous
if he pulls the Mets together, he may keep his job for 2009.

I hope so.
>> Anonymous
heilmann is prob happy about this, he doesn't have to suck willie's cock anymore so he can go in and fail in relief

The Mess don't need Willie to find way to lose hard. They know how to do that all on their own. Nothing like Wagner ruining Pelfrey's night. Nothing like Beltran or Delgados slapping the ball right into a shortstop's glove for a double play. Nothing like Reyes booting a routine grounder. Nothing like Delgado even bothering to try for a grounder that runs up the first base line. The only person who was doing anything worthwhile on that team is....nobody.
>> Anonymous
>>166070

Funny you mention Isiah seeing how he fired Don Chaney in a similarly embarrassing way.

Isiah: Good morning, Don.
Chaney: Good morning, zeke.
Isiah: Oh, by the way did you read today's article?
Chaney: No, what's the story?
Isiah: Oh nothing, just that you're fired.

see, now i like isiah, didn't know about him being such a dick
>> Anonymous
>>166958

Isiah Thomas is why Madison Square Garden is a joke. Much like how Omar Minaya is the reason why Shea Stadium (and soon to be CitiField) is a joke.
>> Anonymous
It's one thing to fire him

It's another thing to fire him when he's on the other side of the country and has won the past 3/4 games.

If anything Omar is trying to cover up building up a team of shit players.
>> Anonymous
>>167000
players aren't shit, but they need to be screamed at or something. the talent is there, it's just not being shown.

omar is a fucknut though, he was trying to weasel his way out of it saying he told willie first, rather than sitting on decision and letting media find out, total bullshit, fuck him

as a metsfag, i'm trying to be optimistic about the season still...
>> Anonymous
>>167011
Metsfag as well. Omar is an asshole. The Mets need a guy like Pinella, Cox, or Guillen to get naked and yell at them until they are good.
>> Anonymous
>>167015
agreed
>> Anonymous
Fellow Metsfags,
Do you guys think that Delgado juiced early in his career? For such a sharp drop off in numbers (excluding batting average, which is a bullshit start anyhow), there aren't any real explanations. Look at guys like Delgado and DHs across the AL. Everyone is on the decline, so it begs the question: Did Delgado take some in the cheek?
>> Anonymous
>>167011

Fine, but its still a dick move to fire him in California in 3:00 while the players have to hear they got fired by SPORTS REPORTERS.

What a dick move.

>>167031

>they

Peterson and Nieto included
>> Anonymous
his excuse was that he wasn't going to fire someone right after the game in uniform, and that he did it at the hotel after the game, 11pm california time

either way, willie deserved better
>> Anonymous
>>167045
I agree, but I really don't know how to fire a guy. It doesn't seem like there was a real "right" way to do it at this point, especially after making him feel like shit for a month. They should have just fired him at the end of last season to avoid this ugliness.
>> Anonymous
>>167052
i watched omar's presser, he spoke about it like willie got another chance because he was the one who hired him, he's a willie fan, etc etc. i don't know if it was bullshit or not, but it smelled like the wilpons told him to do it now faggot and blame yourself, so he did

Mets had by far the best team in the NL and CHOKED in the playoffs. Then the next year with essentially the same team, albeit slightly inferior, choked AGAIN in historical proportions. Mets were dumbshits for keeping him this long.
>> Anonymous
think the mets can lure Roger McDowell away from the braves for pitching coach?

Losing in 7 games is a choke?
>> Anonymous
>>167107
mets don't need a pitching coach, they have santana and pedro, and pelfrey, perez, and maine soak all that knowledge up like sponges
>> Anonymous
>>167121
Apparently, any playoff loss is a choke.

The only choke I remember in recent history was the Yankees going up 3-0, then losing 4 straight in the 2004 ALCS.

Pedro grilled Pelfrey for 45 minutes during a game once.

Then his next start was that 8 inning gem.

Kill two birds with one stone. Heilman dead, Manuel in jail.
It's sad though; the first person I wanted to be fired was Manuel and the last person I wanted to see leave was Peterson. Now Peterson is gone and Manuel is the manager.
I RAGE!

>>167241
Why Manuel?

>>167241
>wow, i remember that game from picture, i miss laduca, he was so much the heart of the mets

was peterson fired for being part of the willie mindset, or also blamed for fail relief staff?

they brought back alomar as a coach, thats good right? he speaks the espanol

i know nothing about the pitching coach but what sny fed me about him

he just took reyes out of the game cause he was having a pain in leg, and reyes threw helmet and was pissed

Delgado strikes out.....again. Oh yeah, changing managers sure fixed his hitting problems.
>>
>>167194
Don't get me started on Bobby V. He was horrible. He let the whole team smoke weed and drink their asses off and was only concerned with image. Anyone remember when all the drug testing for weed started happening? Yea, Bobby V was in the middle of that and said shit like "Oh well, we might be losing but at least we look good while doing it) referring to having bought those atrocious white uniforms that only stayed around one season. He was only interested in image and letting the whole team be as lazy as they wanted as long as they didn't get caught. Fuck Bobby V.
>>
>>167028
Delgado was never doing steriods, he's just a lazy bum. He also blows easy plays all the time and he just needs to gtfo already.

Of course, at least he's not as lazy as Cliff Floyd who would fake injuries all the time so he could sit on the DL and collect his check without doing any work for it, and at least he's not Mike Cameron who would play like total shit and not give a fuck because he wanted to get traded to the Yanks really really bad. There are a ton of worse players we could be having; it's always possible it could be worse.

I still hate him though and I'd take just about anyone else at 1st right now, or at the plate.

“I actually asked him,” Randolph said, “I said: ‘Omar, do this now. If you’re going to do this, do this now. I know you’ve got a lot of pressure on you, but if I’m not the guy to lead this team, then don’t let me get on this plane.’ I did say that to him.”
