I believe that the Point Guard is the most important position in basketball, generally in most cases they bring the ball down the court, and generally decides who gets the ball, or if there going to shoot etc..

So /sp/ whats your list for the top 5 PG in the nba
1.Cp3
2.Parker
3.Nash
4.Deron Willams
5. Big Shot Billups
>> Anonymous
you have parker ahead of nash huh?

2 years ago, I wouldn't, maybe not even a year ago. I feel that Nash benefited a lot from Dantoin's system, he's a great player, but I believe Parker is just a tad bit better today

1. Cp3
2. Deron Williams
3. Chauncey
4. Tony Parker... actually he is proly better than #3.
5. Nash.

Biggest question, there is an Allan Iverson & a Baron Davis, let us just say neither of them were een as good as Kevin Johnson.

1. Billups
2. Steve Nash
3. CP3
4. Rajon Rondo
5. Jason Kidd

Baron was right there on my list, but I still take all 5 on my list over him, then theres Agent Zero, while I like the guy, his blogs good, hes entertaining, I just don't think hes a great PG, hes a great player, but not a great PG

True, scoring point guards need to be taken with a grain of salt. Like big men who never go in the paint and jack up 3's and 18 foot jump shots.

I'm looking at you DIRK!

He's more of a SG than a PG. All he is, is a (volume) sharpshooter and an isolation player. Yes, he does draw attention and uses that to occasionally dish it off for an assist, but he's not the type that runs the offense and gets his team mates heavily involved. He'd make top 10 PG's in the league, top 5 if he refined his passing.

If Baron Aids's is that good, how come he never met the playoffs? If he is better than Deron Williams, he'd have basketball work to do. But he don't. Lord Baron Davis = Allen Iverson. THEY SUCK DON'T WIN GAMES. Deron Williams is barely worse than CP3. He might even be better.

>If Baron Aids's is that good, how come he never met the playoffs?

you forgot the playoffs last year?

>If he is better than Deron Williams, he'd have basketball work to do. But he don't. Lord Baron Davis = Allen Iverson. THEY SUCK DON'T WIN GAMES.

Basketball is a team sport, not a PG sport, Which Utah clearly has a better team than Golden State, which they're not really a bad team, but the west is full of great teams. it's hard to go 48-34 and miss the playoffs, it's unheard of really

>Deron Williams is barely worse than CP3. He might even be better.

you're a fuckin idiot

This is the only year that Baron has been healthy, so I wouldn't be so quick to put him on any list of top players.

They would have faired better against the Lakers in the 1st rd than the Nuggets.
>> Anonymous
tell me when cp3 finally beats deron in a hornets-jazz game.

you all know that kidd was the best point guard in the league back in the first half of the season, he almost averaged a triple-double but the trade to dallas destroyed him
>> Anonymous
>>100611

That's not relevant. Baron has been injury prone for his entire career. While he's still playing at a high level it's hard to label him as one of the best when he misses 20 or so games every year. Plus his shot selection is very spotty when you compare him to the other PGs out west.

>>100619
Every time hes in the paint or mid air and passes it back out, its like a "fuck you" to anyone who watches the game. Kidd doesn't even have a decent jumper, and the 2nd greatest asset a guard can have is a perimeter game. The only thing he has going for him at this point in his career is ball handling and passing. Other than that, he isn't a scoring threat which is something that makes todays PGs so much better than he is. He doesn't belong in top 5.

You have to judge these players on matchups. Billups looks like a star because he plays in a system that lets him post smaller guards up, muscle people around, and hit the occasional 3.

Parker looks good because he's got another slashing threat and one of the best big men in the game to draw attention in the paint.

CP3 looks good because he's got the deepest team with scoring threats everywhere. You can't get 13597123 assists a game without EVERYONE hitting shots.

Nash is a system QB OOPS I MEAN he's the worst defender in the NBA.

Deron Williams is good, but he doesn't have the leadership skills yet to be in the top 5. Baron is an asshole that doesn't know how to win, and Jason Kidd is too old to run the offense that Dallas wants.

Sooooooo, everyone sucks?

My top 5:
CP3
Deron (h2h I take him over CP3)
Nash
Chauncey
Frenchie
>> Anonymous
>>100789
Not at all, I'm just pointing out that everyone needs help in different areas. If I were starting a team and needed a PG, I'd take either Parker or CP3. Parker for his playoff experience and defensive ability, and CP3 because he scores like a motherfucker and feeds his team well.

It's worthless to give a top 5 unless you give a surrounding cast for that PG. What offense do you want to run? Because I know Billups would be terrible in the Suns offense, and I know Nash would blow donkey balls in Detroit's.

Parker stays low on mine b/c of his suspect perimeter game and I don't think his D is as good as you think it is.

Yeah, it depends on the system, but I based my rankings on putting each PG w/ equivalent talent.

>4. Rajon Rondo

Fucking Moron

Golden State could easily be better team if they decided to build around Baron. The worst part about GS is that everyone on the team shares the same weakness.

Anyway

1. Chris Paul

this is self-explanatory

2. Steve Nash

Not even CP3 can handle the ball and pass like this wily mothefucker can. If you watched him in the series against San Antonio, he was able to cut through his defender like Swiss Cheese.

3. Deron Williams
4. Chauncey Billups
5. Tony Parker

An underlooked point guard is Jameer Nelson. Watch out for him in a few years, he just needs some more experience under his belt
>> Anonymous
No love for Jose Calderon? Rajon Rondo, Jameer Nelson, and Jason Kidd were mentioned before him. He's not a top 5 pg, but his passing is so beautiful. Besides, he can actually hit shots, unlike Jason Kidd, who can't even make a layup anymore.
>> Anonymous
Calderon, fuck yeah. He's gotta be at least top 10 with the numbers he was putting up before Bosh went down in January-February.

Deron Williams = CP3

Both have similar traits in almost every aspect of the game.

I would say though that Deron Williams is a bit better cuz his 3pt shot is DEADLY. Just look at what hes done to the lakers almost by himself. CP3 has outside shooters like Peja and Mo Williams, a guy who can hit almost every mid range shot in David West, and a guy who'll keep on jumping for his alley oops in Tyson Chandler.

CP3 - better supporting cast
Deron Williams - can take over games himself
