It's like an extra kick in the balls that 2/6 of them went to Detroit.

Faggots.

That's some happy feet leaving Pittsburgh.

Detroit and Tampa have carved up Pittsburgh's roster. I lol hard at the thought that Pittsburgh likely let so many players go to Tampa to make extra room for a huge offer to Hossa.

He was next year. This upcoming season was to be his last.

8.7Million a year is a steal for him.
>>
>>200684
Yeah he only takes up what 13% of your payroll.
>> Anonymous
>>200684
Know who's a bigger steal?

Hossa for 7.4
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>200686

We are still WAY under the cap and he still has a year remaining on his initial contract.

The main issue is that we have almost no NHL ready wingers.
>> Anonymous
Well, at least they kept Orpik. He was their sole decent defender in the Finals.

Thread wins because of OP's pic. Dear god I lol'd.

It was a coup; no doubt about it.

That said, Detroit is CAP-FUCKED after this year.

I hear Jagr might be coming your why if that helps any. I hope your team is at least somewhat competitive So we can all talk shit when we beat you.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0

Losing Hossa hurts but I'm most angry about the loss of a lot of my favorite, yet lesser known, grinders. Players that showed a lot of heart and worked hard.

Armstrong
Ruutu
Malone
Roberts
Hall

I liked every one of those players.
>> Anonymous
>>200696
Why? Hossa's only on for one year.

>>200697
Probably on the second line with Franzen and maybe Filpulla. His presence also might finally make it possible to split up Datsyuk and Zetterberg, but that's not a given.
>>
>>200709
Roberts and Malone are some mean bastards. They know how to play real hockey unlikethat pussy Crosby. I'll never respect any team he plays for.
>>
>>200710
I heard that Franzen and Holmstrom could switch.
>> Anonymous
>>200710split up Datsyuk and Zetterberg

Why in God's name would you ever do that?
>> Anonymous
>>200697
I'm thinking:

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom
Hossa - Franzen - Filpulla
Cleary - Maltby - Samuelsson
McCarty - Helm/Abdelkader - Drake (pending retirement)

>Why? Hossa's only on for one year.

Detroit will be in the same position the pens are in now, next year. A ton of free agents needing a contract at the same time.
>> Anonymous
>>200715
Franzen, Holmstrom, and Cleary are all net-stormers who often interchange with one another depending on injuries/scratches. Franzen's late-season surge happened because he took over for an injured Cleary.
>>
>>200721
Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Franzen
Hossa - Holmstrom - Filpulla
'
I like this better.
>> Anonymous
>>200722

Yeah...hockey doesn't work that way. Signing Hossa added depth. Splitting up the greatest duo in the NHL would do nothing but harm the Red Wings.

Jesus fuck, Bettman should mandate that Detroit split those two up just to make that division a little more competitive.
>>
>>200723
But the salary cap is likely to expand again.
>>
>>200727
HAHAHA. I like you wanna fuck?
>> Anonymous
>>200723
Detroit's only major UFAs next off-season will be Zetterberg, Franzen, and now Hossa. Hudler and ESPECIALLY Samuelsson are beyond expendable, the latter I want to see gone ASAP. Will have to see how the next season pans out but I'd have no problem seeing Franzen go to make room for Hossa, and if Hossa decides he wants to go somewhere else fine, more room for Franzen and Zetterberg's extensions. The Wings aren't like Edmonton or Vancouver, they don't need to throw ridiculous blank checks at players to encourage them to play for their teams.

>>200733
Who the fuck stole my name?
>> Anonymous
>>200737
Fix that, Conklin will also be a UFA, but with Howard waiting in the wings (pun unintended) it isn't a huge loss.
>> Anonymous
>>200721
Missing some Hudler, Maltby and Draper. I'd take any of them over McCarty, as much a fixture as he's been over the years.
>>
>>200742
I just can't wait to see Helm develop some more. That kid is one of the best skaters I have ever seen.
>> Anonymous
>>200742
ayeayeaye, completely forgot about Draper and Hudler
So let's fix this:
Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom (or Franzen)
Hossa - Filpulla - Franzen (or Holmstrom)
Draper - Maltby - Cleary
Hudler - Helm - Drake (pending retirement)
McCarty
Abdelkader
>>
>>200749
In the next two years think of who is gonna retire. Chelios, McCarty, Osgood . . . who esle?
>> fgh
The Dead Wings of ages past are now the Dreaded Wings of today.
>> Anonymous
>>200756
Osgood's on for a couple more years, actually. And Chelios retiring would be beneficial though; he could stick on as an assistant coach or something, plus it would free up space for the logjam of defensive prospects we have.
>>

>>
>>200764
Osgood is old don't fool yourself. And let's face it he isn't getting any better. Hasek has gone of to be God of his country it's only a matter of time before Osgood walks off into the sunset.
>> Anonymous
>>200756
Draper and Maltby are the same age as McCarty, though they're skills had held up a little better. See Draper getting the Selke in 2004.

And eventually Lidstrom is going to have to stop playing. I mean, he can't keep winning Norris Trophies into his 40's.
>> Anonymous
>>200775

He has to, otherwise we have to award it to losers like Chara and Phaneuf.
>> Anonymous
>>200775
They'll be awarding him Norris Awards posthumously. Bank on it.
>> Anonymous
>>200768
I can only imagine Osgood in retirement. He'll be 80, stuck in a wheelchair at the old-folk's home. Some other geezer will shuffle by him, and Osgood'll fling himself from his wheelchair to the floor then scream for an orderly to sit the geezer for Interference.
>> Anonymous
>>200756
Maybe Lidstrom, maybe Draper. The former would obviously be a huge loss but we have more than capable d-men locked up, plus some very promising prospects. The latter, feh.
