What will it take for OSU to stop being the laughing stock of college football?

Hypothetically, would a national championship won against an SEC team this year do it? Or would that be written off as a fluke?

In before SEC saying it won't even happen and in before nutfags saying it'll happen this year.

A win over USC in september would work wonders (except for the secfags). Honestly, it'll go away in a few years. Bear Bryant had a reputation for being a huge choker in bowl games before he won 3 straight sugar bowls late in his career.

I don't see how they are a laughing stock. They're overrated, sure, but they are still a good team, maybe even a great team.

You also need to realize that beating Michigan is more important to Ohiofags then winning a title.

then could they kindly stay the fuck out of the bcs championship in the future?

Blame the committee.

...It's kind of the same thing. Or at least, in order to win the championship they have to beat michigan.

Granted, given the choice they'd nearly always pick "beat michigan" over "win championship."

Maybe not a laughing stock, but the fact that the "best team" in the Big Ten is 0-10 versus the SEC really hurts the credibility of both OSU and the conference as a whole.

Honestly, I think it's going to take some high profile wins, particularly in BCS bowls. As>>31825said, beating USC will go long way. If they pull that off, beating an SEC team a couple years in a row would probably reverse the current thinking.

The Big 10 is a very good conference, no doubt, and I think everyone fails to realize even reaching the Nat'l Championship Game is an achievement, so why can't people stfu?
>> Anonymous
>>31876
Because reaching it by dominating your conference and then getting blown out doesn't speak well of your conference.
>> Anonymous
>>31876

I would agree with you if there was a playoff system, but>>31885is right. OSU has gotten to the nat'l championship the past two years by outplaying the rest of the big ten and then getting absolutely rocked on the big stage.

As it stands, a computer and a coaches poll gets them to the championship, and because they've gotten blown out the past two years, there's the question of who else deserved to go. If the games had been close it wouldn't be (as much of) an issue.

Dominating? Any year in which a team loses to Illinois they can't be said to have "dominated" anything.

There are so many more factors that people fail to see than just "they played an SEC team" for them getting blown away constantly. The most obvious one is a fucking 50 day layoff. That's so beyond retarded. A team cannot go that long without real-game action and be expected to go play the same as a team that had its less game less than 3 weeks ago.

As a michigan fan, I really have to agree.

that's a sign of them choking, not a weakness of the big 10

Well, the Big 10 HAS been down lately. Hopefully the influx of talent and younger coaches will bring it back to some level of respectability.

>influx of talent

where's the evidence of this?

Just not a clutch team, I mean look at the Illinois game. A very good team when everything isn't on the line, just a poor clutch performer, as opposed to SEC teams who somehow happen to be clutch teams.

I'm not a buckeye fan...but I'm pretty sure this counts as talent.

>>32221

Well...it seems like every game in the SEC comes down to a last second feild goal (or in the case of Crazy Les...a touchdown pass) so they damn well better be clutch...

This is a michigan recruit, Sam Mcguffie. He's got some skill.

Alright, one player. You guys keep it up with the beanie wells for Heisman nonsense that's gonna have the whole country pointing and laughing AGAIN.

Naming off individual recruits does not mean that you're getting better talent into the conference.
>> Anonymous
>>32232

Agreed, those were just examples. Illinois is getting better due to Zooks 'OMGBBQ RECRUITING SKILLZ LULZ that the Illini fans rant on incessently. Michigan State is...well...not getting any worse. Penn State is better in the last couple years than they were before.

I'll be honest: I'm no expert on recruiting, but the buzz up here is that the big 10 did well this year. if you want an expert, check out MGoBlog or something.

join the SEC, and fail lots.

Chris Wells > Any player in the SEC, including that faggot Tim Tebow. Can't even beat Michigan.

Stop losing to all halfway good teams by several touchdowns. Georgia and USC would have destroyed yall moar than LSU. Frankly, midwestern farm boys cannot play ball nearly as good as Florida and SoCal kids. Just cope.

Did you not see the previous National Championship game, or what?

Obviously you didn't. The first play of the fucking game he took off for a huge TD run.

How'd he do the rest of that game? Pretty good right? I'm sure with his immense talent that the opposing defense never stood a chance...

Oh wait.

The SEC is a stronger conference because they are in South where there are a lot more niggers. More niggers = better athletes = better sports teams.

Also, if you are a football player good enough to pick any school you want to play for, are you really going to pick Ohio with its shitty weather over somewhere like Florida where it is warm and nice year round?

TL;DR Ohio State won a national championship in the past 5 years, and keeps beating Michigan so I'd say they're doing alright.

You sound like the Air Force coach after he lost to TCU a few years back. "We have to recruit the black athlete!"
