This guy is contracted to make $450k a year through 2011. Last year, he was at least 1/3 of the Bear's offense.

Go Bears, keep pissing him off by not paying him. When he's a free agent, I want him to go to a team that doesn't suck, or with my hometown team the Panthers.

Also, if I was the coach, I would never ever use him as anything except a KR. I wouldn't even care if he never touches the ball, just by being out there, the offense is gaining 20 to 30 yards automatically.

As I'm in a country where out top football players earn £5 million a year easy (What's that now, bout $9.5M US?), is there some kind of salary cap on NFL?
>> Anonymous
>>124423
Teams can only pay their players so much combined. It's around 120m or so. The best of the best can make around 10m and some make even more.

Yes there is a salary cap. Yes it's way too fucking low.

The NFL players association is fucking pathetic.

Goddamn you are the stupidest motherfucker on these boards.

NFL players currently receive the largest cut of team revenue of all the major sport leagues, and historically its always been comparable to the other North American leagues.

Since the NFL grosses far and away the most revenue of any league, I think the players are making out quite nicely.

hey genius, ever heard of the non guaranteed contracts?

you think nfl players are doing as well as mlb or nba players?
>> Anonymous
>>124515
Why the fuck do non-guaranteed contracts matter? It's not like the cap room is going to disappear because somebody gets cut for sucking, some other player(s) will just get the money.

And in any event almost half of contracts are in bonuses, and NFL players are still making way more than the players in any other league.

The only thing not completely stupid about your post is you took your trip off. Smart move dumbass.

>>124515you think nfl players are doing as well as mlb or nba players?

According to the recent figures in the Wall Street Journal, MLB players are doing worse than NHL players.

It does dissappear sherlock, thats the whole point of having unguaranteed contracts. teams cut players so they dont have to pay them. where the fuck do you get your information?

>>124705
bullshit. name one nhl player with a bigger contract than arod.
>> Anonymous
There is a reason agents of NFL players try to get the signing bonus as high as possible. It's the only money that is completely guaranteed. If a player is cut, his "salary" doesn't mean shit.
>> Anonymous
It's the Bears. They're one of the cheapest teams in the league. This will never change.

I will save a lot of you from looking more stupid with your lame internet fight. The Nba has the highest average salary for their players. They also have the fewest players per team. the top players make similar money to the top players in baseball. If you compare baseball to the NHL you will see that both have similar roster sizes but baseball makes around double the average salary of NHL players. The NFL is almost impossible to compare based on their 53 man rosters and the way they structure the contracts. The franchise numbers for most positions is around 8 million. So players don't have the same ability to make the same yearly in the NFL as they do in MLB or NBA, but the signing bonuses make up for it. They all make way more than enough money.

But he really is, like, a 1/3rd of the total offense. He's the only reason why they've won many of the games that they did.
>> Anonymous
>>124771
What do you mean impossible to compare? You compare how much all the players make against how much all the teams make. The leagues where the players make the highest percentage of team revenue are the leagues that pay their players the best.

Currently that is the NFL, then NBA, NHL and finally MLB. I believe the EPL, for you Britfags, is below MLB percentage-wise.

The math is really simple:
(1) the NFL makes the most revenue of any league in the world,
(2) the players take home the most revenue of any players in the world,
THEREFORE: nfl players are doing pretty fucking well.

wow i didn't know anyone could be this stupid.

what the fuck does players getting the biggest cut of revenue have to do with anything? do you have any idea what the size of an NFL roster is compared to say, the NBA or MLB? go look up the average and median NFL salary compared to the NBA or MLB.

and why wouldn't non-guaranteed contracts matter? NFL players don't get cut only for sucking, you dumbfuck, they get cut for cap reasons too. ever heard of Levon Kirkland?

the amount of fail in those two posts is overwhelming.

(1) % of revenue is the only way to measure how well the players are being compensated, as measuring median or average contracts is dependent on roster size. But you and about three other people here are too stupid to get this.
(2) Non-guaranteed contracts don't matter because if one player is cut, the money that is freed up usually goes directly to signing another player that year, or gets carried over and is available for signing another player the next year under the cap.

Guaranteed contracts don't matter to the players in total; some player WILL get the money, It only matters to specific players and their agents.

I believe in the NFL last year the Vikings actually paid their players the least amount of money, at $20 million below the cap. That's $20 million separating the top spenders in the league from the bottom spenders, and the Vikings now have $20 more million this year to dole out. Every year the majority of teams come with $5 mill of the cap, and most of the difference is in previous LTBE carry over. The players ARE getting paid.

Now GTFO idiot.

>>124781

good lord this post fails so hard

the cut that players get out of revenue has NOTHING to do with how well players are paid, because every league doesn't have the same number of players. an NFL franchise has to pay more than twice as many players as a MLB team, and 4, 5 times as many players as a NBA team. in order for NFL players to be considered "paid the best", the NFL needs to be making far more than the 6, 7 billion they're generating each year. there's a reason median and average salaries in the NFL are so much lower compared to MLB or the NBA, not to mention the already well-documented relative lack of job-security and longevity in the NFL.

>> Anonymous
>>124799
They just want to get a ring.
>> Anonymous
>>124792

so basically you want to ignore how much each player is taking home and only focus on the total of salaries doled out. nice argument you got there.
>> Anonymous
>>124798
According to you, the only way for NFL players to be considered equivalently paid is for the league itself to be making at least twice as much money as the NHL and MLB, and 4 times as much as the NBA, OR (and this is more probable, but only just) for the NFL to reduce roster size down to level of these other sports.

Why don't you just come out and say it? By your analysis, the only way for NFL players to be paid more is for the league to switch to another sport entirely!

No players unions cares about how much any specific player makes, its about how much ALL the players make. All NFL players combined make more than all the players in any other league, and they only play 16 games a year.
>> Anonymous
>>124806focus on the total of salaries doled out

No shit. There is no other way to fairly analyze how well the players are being paid for their contribution to the sport across multiple sports and leagues.

I guess the NFLPA isn't doing its job, because 53 NFL players aren't each making more than the 12 players on an NBA team.

You dumbfucks sure are duuuuumb.
