Hey guys, can I be this year's Most Improved Player since Kevin Martin got shafted last year?
>> Anonymous
Hmmm. Ok. Actually no. You are good and all, but Devin Harris deserves it more.

Are you guize high? Beno? Devin fucking Harris? It will go to Kaman for sho'. Fuck, I'd rather give it to Monta again then those two jerk-offs.

Kaman? If he wasn't a starter last year I'd say you have a case, but he was (underachieving starter yes, but a starter), same goes for Monta, who is playing better but not that much better than he did last year.

My case for Beno is that he went from being a nobody, 3rd string PG who got waived 5 min after getting traded to becoming a more than solid starting point guard. Increasing his scoring average by about 8, assists by about 3, and rebounds by about 2.

Sure Kaman has had a huge increase in stats himself, but he was already pretty decent to begin with and was a full-time starter the past 2-3 seasons.

Wait, your case for MIP is that they have to have played significantly more minutes? That doesn't justify being the most improved player, as you can be good except the coach hates you. Also, how would we know that he really improved if he didn't get any playing time to show what he gotz? I'm sorry but you're going to have to come up with a better arguement than that.

You don't think Poppovich gave him a fair shot at being at least Tony Parker's back-up? To me it shows that he's a lot better now than he was then, otherwise he wouldn't be a decent starting PG in the NBA. Same case can be made for Devin Harris.

Kaman has been a solid starter for the Clippers for the past couple seasons. If he had this increase in stats while Elton Brand was healthy, then it would be more significant in my book, but to me his increase in productivity is out of necessity to the team to make up for an injured teammate. There's no way Kaman has these numbers if Brand is healthy.

I don't know, to me someone like Beno or Devin Harris is more deserving because he went from bench nobody to a significant player on a team as opposed to Kaman who's a solid starter who's productivity has gone up because a team's best player went down with an injury.

I don't get where you are coming with this "Devin Harris went from being a bench nobody," because last I remember, he was a key contributer to the Mavericks and was starting this season for them. Regarding Beno, I still don't think the MIP should be handed out based on who has had the most significant increase in PT. I'm sure that a lot of bench warmers in the league could put up decent numbers if they had their chance too. Also, is it fair to judge by difference in PT, but Kaman doesn't deserve it because "the teams best player went down?" It just seems like you're hating on him now.

uhhh.... Udrih and Kaman both saw improved stats directly related to injured teammates (Mike Bibby and Elton Brand). quite frankly, the only difference is that one wasn't already a starter, and one was.

i really got no problem with giving it to either one.

Rajon Rondo.

Rondo is up 4 pts, 1.3 assists in 7 more minutes. It's probably pretty fucking easy playing with 3 HOFers too.
He's shooting 61% on FT's and 48% from the field up from 42% last year which is a direct result of playing with 3 all-stairs.
Tell me how he has improved.

I'm a San Antonio fan and Beno didn't work into the rotation because he's not very good defensively and had a tendency to turn over the ball when pressured.

He's improved in both of these aspects, and he's ALWAYS been able to score and pass well.

Jose Calderon anyone?

I'll go with that. His stats are scary good.

not exactly scary, but if you look at the scoring percentages and the assist to turnover ratio with the minutes he's playing, and you get a spectacular point guard. I mean, Look at this:

06-07 season 07-08 season

21.0 MPG 31.7 MPG
8.7 PPG 12.3 PPG
5.0 APG 8.6 APG
1.48 TO 1.73 TO
1.7 RPG 3.0 RPG
0.521 FG% 0.532 FG%
0.333 3P% 0.444 3P%
0.818 FT% 0.922 FT%

Chris Paul should get it.

Everyone knows that Toronto doesn't exist to the NBA and the fact that we even have a team up here is resented by a good 2/3 of american sports media.

that being said, he doesn't get it or deserve it. If by "improved" you mean "starter minutes", then yes, Jose deserves it. But he has always been good. That's why we had the best bench in the NBA, statistically, when he was running the show last year and early this year.

Wait, you're saying that if you get more minutes, your shooting percentage, Free throw percentage, assist to TO ratio should all naturally increase?
>> Makunouchi !!+pnudkjANjX
Oh gawd, the biggest mistake I made was dropping Beno from my fantasy league. I KNEW THEY WERE GOING TO TRADE BIDDY FUCK ME

One thing I love about watching games aired in toronto is when one of the raptors is at the free throw line the damn arena is eerily quiet. Like hear a drop of piss hit the floor quiet.

Fans don't follow their team up to Toronto lol.

i still don't know why the spurs let him go

The MIP should go to Hedo Turkoglu. Even though I think he's a one-year-wonder/scrub.

He didn't play well enough to fit into the rotation from what I heard. Spurs really need to bring in some young blood. This trend of keeping and signing age 30+ role players is getting old.

no pun intended
