Amierikkkan here...

So do people in England generally support teams that play in their area or are allegiances all over the place for various reasons (bandwagoning, picking a team with a pretty uniform when you're 5 years old)?

Like if you go to London, are there more Manchester United fans more than anyone else?
>> Anonymous
>>60588
You're a cunt if you don't support your home town's team, or if you have a strong connection to some other team. People on the bandwagons are probably outsiders from the rest of Europe, or those who don't really care.

Though I have to admit that I started liking Liverpool because red is my favorite color, but hey I was 7 years old and I'm not from England :p
>> Anonymous
About bandwagons I would say.
70's and 80's it was Liverpool.
90's to present is United.
Since Mourinho/Abramovich Chelsea have started a little bandwagon
Arsenal i guess might be a bandwagon too when they've won the premiership
>> Anonymous
>>60590
so you're a cunt then?
>> Giovanni Sinclair !kPeYgxvYE2
I would be considered a bandwagon fan if the first European team I really started to follow were Arsenal four or five years ago and my only expose to them was CL and a couple EPL games when there was a free sport preview on Directv? I mean before them it was just the Fire and the Mexican League teams.

They also have the most American players in the whole league. So if you're a true Yank, you'll support Fulham for that reason.

Liverpool FC, as my father was, and his father before him. Lived in Liverpool all my life, apart from right now since I'm going to uni in Sheffield. Also Liverpool are not a bandwagon club, you should see how much we're slated in the English National press. If Benitez does something good they're all like 'FINALLY!' or 'THE OPPOSITION WEREN'T THAT GOOD!' But if Fergie or Arsene do it they're on their cocks immediately, calling them genius.

Thankyou. Got in before I could say the same thing. Wenger's not been hounded by the press because Arsenal won the Premier League title within 18 months of him arriving. What people forget is that he already had a back 4 and goalie that was excellent, the rest of the team gelled well and he won the league, but if you're building something, it always has to start in defence these days because you can't concede goals easily and expect to win things. It took Ferguson 7 YEARS to build his team, and he bought the most expensive team in history during that time and still won nothing and was nearly sacked for it. Winning the FA Cup saved his job. Now they're saying Benitez winning the European Cup for the 2nd time in 4 years might not save his job. Just a small case of double standards I think.

Chelsea are just funny, sacking Mourinho was ridiculous, akin to the sacking of Del Bosque by Real Madrid years ago after he won La Liga but failed to win the European Cup in the same season. That started Real's downward spiral which was only arrested by Capello, who was then promptly sacked. I lol'd heartily. That's the only reason why I'm not scared of Real 'poaching' Benitez off us, who'd want to manage Real? Seriously? They feel none of the shame Liverpool are about boardroom squabbles and the like. The situation with Gillet and Hicks currently is embarrassing, but they'll still go before Rafa does. Only now are the press even realising that he's managed to hold the team together well despite all the rumblings above him. What he's had to go through is a disgrace.

Not an Englishman, but I supported Chelsea since around 1997 because of the Italian connection (Zola is awesome) and they are somewhat a lulzy team to support back then (Hasselbaink scoring an own goal with a perfect header and Ranieri's antics during his final year tenure).

I now wonder whether Chelsea fans around me even know about the guy.

>>60588
Mancfag here. Yeah, but I guess it depends on your family loyalties mainly as they're as usually at least two "major" clubs per city.. In my case I followed from my dad, who like me, is a red through and through.

What I am interested in is if anyone from anywhere else where in England that follows and/or wishes well for other other, maybe smaller, local clubs? I always keep up to date with Oldham as I was born there and live like 5 miles between there and Manchester.. And I used to live a ten minuet walk from Gigg Lane and when Bury was going through financial difficulties I went to their games, and donated to keep them from going into administration.. And wouldn't think twice about doing it again. Is there any Scousefags, or Geordiefag, etc.. that are the same?
>> Britannian Anonymous !4bbKDTSEQc
>>61003
I would. The most local club to me is in fact 'Marine FC' who are from Crosby. They play in the league tier just below the conference. I go to their games sometimes, they're decent, just don't have enough investment to make the step up. They're well managed financially, but if they were in trouble I wouldn't hesitate to donate to them. They give local players a good chance.
