Tied for the best record in the West and can't come close to selling out their own arena.

Are you fucking kidding me? This city gets to keep their franchise and Kansas City, St. Louis, Jacksonville, El Paso, etc. don't have a team and Seattle is about to lose their franchise.

Seriously, this has to be some sort of joke.

cause people are broke there in new orleans?

They have the cheapest tickets in the whole NBA and have been giving tickets away to inflate attendance numbers.

It was a bad idea to go back to New Orleans and it was clear from the beginning.
>> Anonymous
Yeah. Godamn poor niggers. That hurricane was two and a half years ago. Fucking shape up. The world needs you to fill up your basketball arena.

Goddamnit. The World only gives you a certain amount of time to rebuild after disasters.

Terrible idea to move the team to New Orleans.
>> Anonymous
I fucking love it. Every cock sucker talks about how much the sports teams mean to those goddamn niggers, and having them back will make everyone feel better. Wrong. New Orleans is a shit town and should be paved over.

That reminds me, I have never been to an NBA game and I'm about an hour from New Orleans. I think I'm gonna go catch a Hornets game.

TO THE BANDWAGON!!!!

The funny thing about New Orleans is if you live in the surrounding area the Hornets don't exist unless you play high-school basketball.

From Dallas, it's cheaper to catch a Southwest airlines flight to NO to watch the Hornets play the Mavs than it is to buy a decent ticket at the AAC. Discuss.

I have reason to believe that the only reason anyone ever cared about the hornets was because of that urban-looking bee.
Even I used to have a hornets jacket in elementary school and I didn't even care about the team.

But seriously, as long as the suns and the celtics aren't going anywhere, I couldn't care less about what happens to any other team.

It's still one of the league's marquee teams and there was no sell out. The Milwaukee bucks is one thing, the #1 overall seed last year is another.

Should have stayed in Charlotte.

Not only that, but the Bobcats lost Paul to New Orleans by a COIN FLIP. A COIN FLIP decided who got the 4th and 5th pick, they got Paul, we got Raymond Felton.

Give me a break.

Sacramentofag here. We used to play Gerald off the bench when the game got lulsy (happened a lot back in those days. for the better btw). I loved Gerald Wallace. i still have his Kings jersey, and I bought a Charlotte jersey when I heard we cut him.

tl;dr I miss Gerald

New Orleans lost HALF of its population.

It's hard enough to support a team especially when the city is a rebuilding shithole.
>> Anonymous
>>8898
Which is exactly why moving the Hornets back was a bad idea. The team is bleeding money even worse than it was before Katrina. The problem is with the NBA.
>> Anonymous
>>8904

why the fuck are we losing our team then? To a city that has another failed fucking promotion like the fucking cheifs... Atleast the seahawks are pretty good even if they play in a piece of shit division.

Events that have led to this

Hornets events:

Katrina hits NO
Hornets move to OKC, a traditionally minor league city
Team is successful in OKC, OKC thinks it's a major league city
Hornets move back to NO after two years, OKC desperate for pro team

Sonics events:

Schultz gets frustrated by local politicians
Schultz sells team to Bennett, OKC businessman
Bennett threatens to move team unless slightly unrealistic expectations are met
City of Seattle refuses to budge
Bennett files for relocation
To be continued...

Kevin Durant blows out his knees yes both of them. Vince Carter gets traded to the Sonics.

The guy who owned the Charlotte Hornets was, like most owners, a money-grubbing douchebag. The city of Charlotte wouldn't buy him a new arena (CRY MOAR), so he moved the team to New Orleans where they had a mostly new arena, more box seats, and more season-ticket pledges. Then he moved his team there and never changed the name, never embraced the culture, and never spent money, because once again, he's a money-grubbing douchebag. The team was going to fail even if Katrina never came.

Meanwhile, the Sonics get sold to a God-loving hick from OKC (a state in which it was illegal to get a tattoo until 2007) and even though Seattle won't buy him a new arena either, I'm not sure he ever planned to keep the team there.

So to the OP... we're about to have 2 homeless NBA franchises. St. Louis or Kansas City could get a team yet. But not Jacksonville or El Paso, because nobody gives a fuck.

As one of those OKC hicks, I'd much rather have the Hornets move back, but Shinn's a cancer nobody wants around and seems totally unwilling to sell. Fuck, I'd prefer an expansion team over the Sonics, but that isn't going to happen either.

Sorry Seattle.

You are correct, sir. He doesn't want to make your city proud, he just wants your money. Which should really piss off the other professional team already there, the Oklahoma Sooners.

>>8980
Fuck that shit, owner should have changed the mascot to something more NO-flavored. I don't see why he didn't, he could've sold an ass-ton more merchandise, rather than have people recycle the old stuff. OH WAIT... "Jazz" was taken. I fucking hate Utah.

>Which should really piss off the other professional team already there, the Oklahoma Sooners.
I never have and never will give a shit about colligate sports, so it pains me to agree. There's going to be a lot of people here bawwwing over a real team moving here - most of whom never actually attended college.

The fucked up thing is Stern had made it pretty clear that the only way to get a team is to steal one, then he turns around starts making noise about European expansion.

Sure, it probably won't actually happen, but... fuck.
>> Anonymous
Most of Seattle could care less if the Sonics go, really. We're only fighting to enforce the lease in court because Clay Bennett is an asshole, we hate him, and we want to see him lose more money than he wants to before he moves the franchise like he always planned on doing.

Life without the NBA will be a lot like life without an NHL team, in that nobody cares about it because the Hawks go to the NFL playoffs every year.

>>9080
But that's all well and good, because we bought the Storm, so at least the dykes get something from all this.

People are still bitching about the Sonics leaving, unlike when the Grizzlies left Vancouver, which was a huge failure (they only lasted two seasons? THAT is an overwhelming message). If the Sonics were good, it would be different. But they aren't, and the owner isn't going to try to change that, much like the owner in "Major League." (and every other sports movie, ever).

>>9095
The Storm are staying in Seattle? Um... cool. I think. We're also getting an MLS team, right? Fuckin' Bill Gates could but the entire NBA and yet he just sits there....

What the fuck is wrong with "Hornets"? Does the "New Orleans Hurricanes" sound better to you?
>> Anonymous
>>9122
"Hornets" is the name of Charlotte's team. It's just as stupid as keeping the name "Jazz" when the old team left for Utah.

And to answer your second question... Yes.
>> Anonymous
Didn't the Jazz offer them the name at one point when the Hornets moved to New Orleans? I seem to recall George Shinn turning them down, but it's probably just bullshit.
>> Anonymous
>>9149
Yeah, that doesn't sound right... I sincerely doubt Utah would change the name of their team after 30 years of good attendance and merch sales.
>> Anonymous
Wow. 90% of you fags don't know anything about this.

1. Louisiana is a football state: Saints and LSU football sell out.

2. We've never had a good basketball team besides a few LSU teams in Louisiana. It's new to us, give it some time to grow.

3. Most of the people who go to the games aren't from downtown New Orleans, and have to commute to get there. I live about 100 miles away from New Orleans, and I get Saint's season tickets every year (about 8 games usually only on Sunday). It isn't hard to acomodate my schedule for this. NBA teams have around 40 home games a year. Often the games are at inconvenient times, and it cost money to commute. Its not something most of us are into enough to devote that much time.

Most people in this area have never been to an NBA game, and don't know how fun it is. Watch how quickly things will change once we make it to the playoffs a few times, and become a contender. The word about the Hornets is spreading around Louisiana. I hear more and more about them through radio, tv, and newspaper. Just give people the time to try it out, and become fans.

Also, having Chris Paul on your team makes the games 10x more interesting and fun to watch.
