Hey Ausfags of /sp/.

Don't you think it's about time Australia started a professional baseball competition?
As a child I loved baseball (and still do) but I knew that as I get older there wouldn't be a competition in Australia like they have in America, Japan etc for me to go into.
I think it would boost numbers in baseball all over the country and at all age levels if we could get such a competition.

No I don't think it's time, because we have cricket, aka the Other World Game, and we're the best at it in the world.

fortunately, by the time one cricket match has concluded, it will BE the time.

Actually I don't think it would harm cricket at all. We have Rugby Union, Rugby League, AFL and soccer ... Four different versions of, dare I say, 'football' and they are all popular in their own rights. So I can't see how baseball will affect cricket.

Test is to 2020 as chess is to pop-o-matic trouble.

You can watch the Indians and the ICC turn the game into McCricket if you want, but many of its fans actually appreciate and understand the game.

I have this order of preference in terms of variations of cricket, favourite to least favourite: Test (5 Days/2 innings); Twenty20 (20 Overs each); One Day (50 overs each);
All limited overs sucks, but Twenty20s are more exciting than 'one dayers'

2020, though, seems to me to be awfully similar in a lot of ways to baseball. similar game length, similar overall effectiveness of the batter (baseball would have a lot more hits if every ball fouled back was considered in play), etc.

We already have one boring as fuck sport (cricket) having two would be too much.

Before the great depression most cricketers also played baseball. Then WW2 happened and it disappeared.

The MLB is apparently setting up a new league and bring back the claxton shield but it'll probably fail like the last 4 or so attempts. There's no way we'll get a pro comp going if we can't even get a national amatuer comp up and running.
