Oh hai guise don't mind me. I'm just 11 for 19 in my first 5 games at the major league level, with a walk-off home run, 8 runs, 3 doubles, 4 RBI, 5 walks, 2 steals, oh and I've only struck out once and 0 errors in the field. Don't mind me though, because I only play in Cincinnati. Oh, and no one is including me in the RotY discussion.

0/10

Nomo's rookie year: 191 1/3rd IP, 236 Ks, 78 BB (>3 K/BB ratio), 2.54 ERA, 1.056 WHIP, 13-6

Chipper's rookie year: .265/.353/.450 (108 OPS+), 23 HR, 87 R, 86 RBI, 8 of 12 on SB tries

Chipper had a very solid rookie season. Not great, but solid - the only reason he finished 2nd was because no other rookie hitter in the league could rake (every other competing rook position player had a sub-.800 OPS)

Nomo was one of the 5 best pitchers in the entire league that year - he should have finished no worse than 3rd in the Cy Young voting (Glavine won more games because of a better team, and wasn't particularly dominant on the mound). He probably deserved 2nd. Pete Schourek had a fine season, but his ERA, WHIP, and K totals were all weaker than Nomo's, and he pitched no more innings - yes, he had more wins, but W/L record is largely a function of how well your team hits when you're pitching.

Point being, Chipper was an above-average hitter. Nomo was the second or third best starting pitcher in the league. You have no idea what you're talking about.

19 at bats. Give it some time. He still has room to catch up to Soto and Fukudome.
