Question for /rugby/ Anonymous
sup, /rugby/.

which is greater: Heinenen cup or guiness premiership champions?

europeans have too many fucking leagues and I've never been able to rank them properly.

Super 14 is best.

That's not helpful. Everybody knows that.

Super 14 sucks cock, it's not even a competition as the Crusaders win every fucking year. The only reason they didn't win last year was due to the fact all their players were removed for Pre-World cup training camp.

Heineken > Top 14 > Guinness > Super 14 > Magners

Magners = lol

you can't compare a league and a knockout competition. the top 4 teams in the super 14 are at least as good as the top teams in europe, maybe better, i'd like to see them play each other.

magners isn't as strong as top 14 or english league, but the top irish and ,to a lesser degree, welsh teams routinely beat english and french opposition in the heineken cup.

munster v toulouse in the final reinforces that point.

looking forward to the new seeding coming in competition next season though.

Only Problem is the best teams in the Magners league i.e Munster, Ospreys etc, don't take it seriously and put out 2nd string teams. If there was more money involved in the competition maybe things would be different.

That's certainly the case when these teams have matches coming up in the Heineken Cup. Otherwise, I don't know about Ospreys but Munster were still contesting the league up until quite late in the season when it became apparent that Leinster were going to win it.

It's still a newish league, but it's an important contest for Irish and Welsh teams and it's getting better. The Scots should be chucked out though - playing in front of 75,000 empty seats in Murryfield must be soul destroying.

Quite true, Rugby in Scotland is going down the fucking tubes.

Oh well, Heineken Cup final at 4:00.

great cup or greatest cup?

The final never disappoints, it's almost always very close (a score or less between the teams) and extremely intense. I'd say you won't see a better game of club rugby than the one this afternoon anywhere - southern hem included.

Fucks knows who's gonna win it though.

As a Wasps fan, I would rather win the Premiership before the Heineken Cup.

Why be champions of europe if you're not champions of England?

Europe > england

But beating teams like Leicester, Bath, Gloucester and Sale to be champions is better than a shit Italian side or a Magners Leauge side who only qualifies because they are from a certain country (Newport Gwent Dragons)

Look at London Irish. They had Perpignan, Newport and some Italian side in their group, and ended up playing Perpignan again before losing to the first good side they played.

If you were in the Heineken Cup final instead of the Premiership final you'd be singing a very different tune.

We were, last year. We won.

And in 2004, in both. Of course winning the Heineken Cup is amazing, but the League is a priority.

>>114551

how are you going to win the HC by just beating shit italian sides or newport? that's maybe a couple of matches the group stages, beyond that it's a very different story.

and yeah, butthurt cos wasps didn't get out of their group this year.
>> Anonymous
>>114558

Again, lets look at Wasps run last year.

Perpignan, Castres and Treviso.

Then Leinster and Northampton (who were relegated)

Our only tough tough match was the final.

tbh the only english sides most people outside of england would rate are the likes of wasps and leicester who have won the HC. none of the other sides pose much threat to the other top european sides like toulouse, clermont, munster etc..

i understand that the english league is a priority, it's the same in france - but winning you own league only proves that you are the best in your own country. there are better teams to prove yourself against elsewhere. i think the HC can only be a good thing for european rugby in general in terms of raising our skill base and tactics to compete against the tri-nations teams in the WC.

>>114562

Oh yeah, I do agree. Don't get me wrong, the HC is vital to rugby (last year an English won the HC and a South African team won the S14, the RWC final was England-South Africa)

It might just be I see more Guinness Premiership matches than HC, so I like it more.

yes, wasps did have quite an easy run last year (relative to other winners in past years) and some shit teams made it out of easy groups this year while good teams didn't make it out of extremely tough groups this year. but they are introducing a proper seeding system next season which will hopefully make things a bit more balanced and ensure that the strongest teams compete against each other in the knockout stages rather than the groups.

>>but they are introducing a proper seeding system next season which will hopefully make things a bit more balanced

Ah, brilliant. Most of the groups are fair, but there is always 1 weak and 1 very tough one, it ruins it a little. (Sky Sports like it though)

I think you guys look at it the wrong way.
As a rugbyfag that unfortunately doesn't live in one of the usual rugby nations I would love to see more competitions here in the east. Italy developed from a 40 rating to a 70 through joining the 6N, they should start integrating the best teams of the ENC instead of excluding them.

Going to sound dense, but whats ENC?

European Nations Cup
Romania and Georgia smashing everything that isn't in the 6N.
>> Anonymous
>>114616

Ah right, I was impressed with Georgia in the last RWC, really played some fun good rugby and should have beaten Ireland. Compared to 2003 where they got hammered.

>>114627
Georgia and Romania have immense potential (even when I facepalmed everytime they didn't tackle an all black but just hold onto them in the RWC) they could be so much more than just providers of not-so-good player for club rugby if they get a little support of the IRB and the other european rugby nations.

They have epic props over there
