Bad decision from the stewards in my opinion. I don't think Hamilton gained an advantage by carrying his momentum forward from the cut chicane, because he lost his momentum allowing Raikkonen back past.

For once we get a good race, and then the stewards have to ruin it.

MASSA WON

HAMILTON GOT A 25 SECONDS PENALTY

LULZ

I'm not sure if I agree with the penalty, but he certainly benefited from cutting thechicane there. Fuck it, if Kimi is out of the championship battle I realy don't care who'll win. I don't want to wach him helping Massa in the last races.
>> Anonymous
And now it's illegal to overtake in F1.

Finest bit of racing since the late '90's and the stewards have to go and piss on it.
>> Anonymous
Just hand the title to Massa and Ferrari, since everytime Hamilton and McLaren own their sorry asses, Ecclestone and Mosley's pricks will penalize them.

Thanks for ruining the best race of the year FIA, fucking thanks!

Anytime you overtake by cutting the track you deserve a penalty.

Which is why Hamilton pulled off and let Kimi pass him.

But Hamilton was still propelled by cutting the track and he took advantage of this to overtake Kimi again

So what the hell is Charlie Whiting there for? That's twice he's told McLaren to carry on and they won't be penalised and twice they've listened to him, carried on and been penalised.

Kimi left the door wide open for him and he took it. No fault there.

And let's not forget Kimi got an advantage by going off track a few corners later too, where's his penality?

>> Anonymous

Logic says that if he let Kimi overtake, he had to go slower, despite being propelled or not.
The only thing you can argue is the fact he was really close right after letting Kimi pass, which is something anyone would do, enabling him to overtake Kimi again, since his pace was much superior (important, he gained a lot of time before that situation, thus going much better).

I see it was a normal overtake, but if Ferrari doesn't keep up with the championship, fia will end finding it boring.

Still, we don't need to cry, it's not like it's over and Hamilton is still in front

You think it's only the fanboys that are raging? Much as I'd love Massa to get the win, I don't want it to be at the expensive of turning F1 into a fucking joke.

You'd think he would have learned not to cut the track after Magny Cours, but apparently not.

Also, I lol'd at Lewis BAWWWWing about Kimi cutting him off. "that's not fair!" Awww, but it was just dandy when he did it in Germany.

You know what would have been epic? Heidfeld came to get wet tires with two laps to go and went from 7th to 3rd, going 20s a lap faster than anyone. If Renault had just decided to do that for Alonso, instead of wet tires on just the last lap, Alonso quite conceivably would have won the race...maybe even by 5-10s. Could you imagine Alonso on the last lap of the Belgian GP, blasting past Hamilton through Blanchimont.

Haha! has anyone actually read the FIA ruling behind this? The two rules specifically quoted as having been broken are-

Article 30.3(a) of the 2008 FIA Formula One Sporting Regulations.
"During practice and the race, drivers may use only the track and must at all times observe the provisions of the Code relating to driving behaviour on circuits."

and

Appendix L chapter 4 Article 2 (g) of the International Sporting Code.
"The race track alone shall be used by the drivers during the race."

Basically they've penalised him merely for leaving the racetrack! The FIA just shot themselves in the foot! Good luck enforcing that one from now on!

Long time Ferrarifag here

What a bullshit penalty. Lewis won that race, he beat Kimi, he allowed Kimi back pass and he beat Kimi again. FIA are moronic at best.

McLarenfag here,

Kudos to you sir, the level of support I've seen from honest Ferrari fans like yourself has really raised my opinion of you lot the last few days.

For what it's worth, Massa's been doing a damn fine job lately, he deserves the championship as much, if not more, than anyone
>> Anonymous
>>322012

Completely agree. I was utterly heartbroken when his engine blew up, because he has been sensational in the latter part of the season. Too bad he can't drive too well in the wet (or, as was evident by Kimi's crash, maybe it is the car?)

I wanted Massa to win, but not in this way. Fair enuogh for FIA to penalise Lewis for running into the back of Kimi, fair enough for them to penalise McLaren for bulking other cars at Malaysia, but I don't know how anybody can seriously get that Lewis was in front, then slowed to let Kimi past, into gaining an advantage.

He slipstreamed and breaked later. That is why he passed Kimi. Not because he skipped the corner.
>> Anonymous
>>322016

Definitely the car, I don't recall either Massa or Raikkonen being that bad in the rain before. Your guys seem to have this set-up that works like a charm in hot, dry conditions at the expense of performance in the wet.

As for the race, I wouldn't have cared who won it, what really mattered was I got to see some nail-biting, tooth and nail fighting for the lead for once. Just a shame the stewards had to go piss all over it.

Sadly, I guess that's the story of F1 these days, where sheer determination and the urge to win are punished by penalties and the spectacle of the race is shunned in favour of mindless adherence to myriad rules and regulations.

A shame really, for a moment there in Spa, it was looking like the old Hakkinen vs Schumacher days again.
>> Anonymous
>>322006

next time also read what officials actually said was wrong.

Stewards said in a statement that Hamilton "cut the chicane and gained an advantage that allowed him to take the lead from Raikkonen."

He did gain advantage by cutting that chicane. When he left Raikkonen past he immediately went into slipstream and passed him on the next corner. The penalty is deserved, but fia fucked it up by not giving it during the race. In other sports if officials screw it they screw it, you can't just get a bad penalty call back after a game.

>>322026
I dont see it like that. I see it like this: Michael Schumacher would have done the exact same thing and gone unpunished.

I'm not arguing with that, he was protected like turtle by fia. I'm only saying that this decision was right.

They sure did say that's what he'd done. Congratulations for noticing that.

Unfortunately for them, they didn't point to exactly which rule he breached vis a vis the advantage (which is bullshit, he clearly gave up the advantage, he was alongside going in and behind after dropping back) part of the statement. Want to know why?

There isn't one.

Go ahead and check the rules

http://www.fia.com/sport/Regulations/f1regs.html

There's no actual rule against overtaking off track.

Go ahead and check, it's not there.

So now, going from the 'advantage' argument, they are not only penalising Hamilton for not breaking a rule, they're penalising him for not breaking a rule that doesn't exist.

All they have are the two rules I quoted previously. And if they're going to get him on those, well, they might want to have words with Massa too.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qjQiOJpHBM

...and just about every other driver. Sorry, but the FIA's position here is completely untenable.

In during BAWWWWWmula One. It IS fucking annoying that a good race got ruined by steward fuckwittery, though. Let us all BAWWWW together.
>> Anonymous
Let's point out it was a contact between the cars that sent Hamilton over the chicane, it's not like he just decided to cut the track. And he did let Raikkonen back in front. 25 seconds seems pretty damned harsh.

It's a shame Raikkonen went off too, but then it was his own fault really. Massa is the one that's getting all the advantage here, which he clearly doesn't deserve.
>> Anonymous
Oh shi- Give me a well deserved slowpoke.jpg on this one, but I was not aware that Hamilton had been penalized until seeing this thread heading towards page 10. For any Eurofags out there or anybody more connected, what are the chances McLaren can get its victory back on appeal? I' not a fan of either team (Honda, lol), but I thought Hamilton did everything right in getting back behind Massa after cutting the chicane (momentum be damned!).

tl;dr - all F1 races should be run on wet tracks for teh lulz
>> Anonymous
>>322437

I've seen several claims that McLaren won't be able to appeal at all because the penalty was a drive-though, and for some reason you can't appeal against those. Says here: http://en.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/news/detail/080908154353.shtml

Come on, guys, see the replays. Hamilton breaks, then sees a free space on the left, turns left and accelerates. He could have waited for Raikkonen to pass him, and CHOSE not to. This shouldn't be allowed.

When I watched this during the race, I was all "fuck, this cheating faggot did everything by the rules and will get away with it". Turns out he didn't.

Of course it's not really his fault. The circuits should be built in such a way that leaving the track will, under all circumstances, mean a loss for a driver. Things turn ridiculous simply because they aren't. Is installing a trap on a chicane really that hard of a task?
>> Anonymous
not an f1fag here

what happens if you put wet tyres on a dry track? obviously go slower but how? i suppose they're sticky..
>> Anonymous
>>323066

Yeah, what a lot of Tifosi are forgetting is Kmi was as slow as balls down that straight then bungled the corner, doesn't matter if Lewis was right behind him or two car lengths behind, he was going through.
>> Anonymous
>>322456

Normally, you're not allowed to appeal drive through penalties because they usually happen halfway through the race and if the guy that got it finished, say, seventh, they can't amend the rankings because they have no idea where he would've ended up without the penalty.

In this case, however, the penalty was awarded after the race, so they know exactly where he would have ended up.
>> Anonymous
>>323341
> Kmi was as slow as balls down that straight
He was also 2 seconds slower than Hamilton on that lap alone.

This is as retarded as the penalty they gave Alonso in 2006 for 'blocking' Massa in Monza.
