If he didnt get injured earlier in the season, Dice-K would be battling Cliff Lee for the AL Cy Young

Same. I have been saying this guy is great for years.

Actually, he might still be, given the fact that the Indians aren't going anywhere NEAR the postseason, and the voters like to give it to someone on a playoff team. Something tells me the walk problem earlier in the season will hurt him in the balloting - he was winning games left and right, but it was so ugly as to be almost unwatchable.

I'm just glad he seems to have cleared that hurdle and is getting strong at just the right time. With Beckett still something of a question-mark going forward, Wakefield aging, Colón still floundering about in Pawtucket, and Buchholz being deconstructed and rebuilt in Portland, we're going to need him to be at his best in September and October.

Dice-K is not a great pitcher. At all. W-L is sometimes a decieving stat, as is ERA. Now, lately Dice-K has actually been pitching pretty well, and as a Sox fan, this makes me happy. However, I'm cautiously optimistic. The one stat that sticks out is 80 Walks to 124 Strikeouts. That really isn't good. Thats roughly a 1.50 K/BB ratio, which is terrible. Excluding relievers, the highest K/BB ratio is Cliff Lee who has a 5.37 K/BB. That means he strikes out roughly 5 batters for every walk he allows. Dice-K is striking out less than 2 batters for every walk he allows. He has only allowed 107 hits on the season, which is good. Really, his big problem is lack of command which leads to a ton of walks. He has allowed more walks than any pitcher in the majors (including the ridiculously wild Daniel Cabrera). And that's not to mention his abysmal post season performance last year. He allowed 11 earned runs and 8 walks in 19.2 IP over 4 games. Sure he struck out 17 in 19.2 innings, but 19.2 innings over 4 starts less than 5 innings per start. Is Dice-K a bad pitcher? No. He is incredibly frustrating to watch because of his lack of control and the walks he allows. If he would trust his stuff more and stop trying to get every pitch on the corner, he could be great. I just don't think he can carry us through the post season.

Doc Halladay would get it before Dice-K.

How is ERA a decieving stat?

And talk all you want about his walks, but nobody hits Dice-K ... batters have a .211 BA against him - which is the lowest in AL for starting pitchers besides Justin Duchscherer.

runs scores on errors, no matter when the error occurs is not counted. Even on a HR. A hitter can reach first on an error, and the next batter can hit a HR, and both runs is notconsidered 'earned'.

Most Errors aren't the Pitcher's fault...

Wrong. If there 2 out and an E. Both run ARE unearned.
BUT If there 1 or none outs and there a E. 1 Run will be earned.

If the fielder had done his fucking job properly those runs would not have scored.

Awesome? No Awesome is for fags. I would say he one of the top pitch in the AL. But has only one problem, walks to many batters. But he should be talk about in the CY. (But not winning the CY)

>>306109

Beckett, Lester and Matsuzaka are a pretty good starting 3 if the Red Sox make the playoff.

Awesome? The guy can't go more than 6 innings. Congrats soxfags, your ace is a long relief pitcher.
