so /sp/ i am playing fantasy football for the first time in my life and have no fucking idea what to do. any help on how i should go about my draft and such? im in a head to head league.

Every fantasy football player should know to get wide receivers first. I'd take Randy Moss with my first pick if I were you.

If your league site is up already, it probably has a page that outlines the scoring. Touchdowns are pretty obvious, but often points are awarded for stuff like yardage, completions, and fumble recoveries too.

Next, take an assessment of 1) how many people are in the league and 2) the number of roster slots you need to fill. For example, two-quarterback setups will require a different strategy than if everyone only needs one per week.

The conventional wisdom is to take the best available RB with your first pick. (There are exceptions. This year I drew the last pick in the order, so I took a great QB instead a mediocre rusher.) Quarterbacks are of the next highest importance, followed by receivers. Tight ends are negligible; they have the same scoring criteria as WRs but generally see far less action.

It's hard to comment on defenses and kickers because there is so much variance in how they're scored. Just follow the other people and draft some when they start to.

RB-RB is the tried and true method. However, you're better off taking someone like Randy Moss or Tony Romo if you have like the 8th or 9th pick because then you can probably take someone like Marshawn Lynch at 11 or 12

Running backs first... though if you're picking 10th or so Randy Moss isn't a terrible decision, and Brady's not a bad choice in the 11-15 range. Other than that I'd recommend taking 2 running backs in the first 2 rounds.

Your scoring system is loaded toward running backs, with QB's only getting 4 points for touchdowns. Running backs generally tend to get more TD's than wide receivers, making a good running back more valuable than a good wideout. There's generally not a big enough difference between a great QB and and average QB to take one first.

Sleepers, rankings? Do your own damn research. There's plenty of sites out there with opinions.

4pts for passing tds means don't waste a high pick on a qb. brady or romo is sweet, but 2 top tier rbs will be better than brady/romo and a 2nd tier rb.

My league is 4 points for passing TD's also yet someone took Brady with the 2nd pick overall. So his running backs are Maroney and Parker. Not a smart choice taking a QB 2nd overall.

Don't be a faggot. Any loser can pick LT with the number 1 pick. But when the season is over, and you lost in the first round of the playoffs, you'll say it wasn't your fault. You'll say you did what anyone else would've done.

But last year, how many people laughed when some "idiot" took Tom Brady with the number 1 pick? Everyone? But who was the one laughing at season's end?

There is only one choice, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise:

My league let LaDanian fall to me at pick #3. Westbrook and Peterson went off the board first.

This year is going to be awesome.

Got Moss in the third round last year when nobody wanted to roll the dice. Best decision ever.

westbrook is going to be amazing this year. with scrubs as the wr's on that team, westbrook is going to be in on almost every offensive play

I don't disagree with that, and I'd have happily taken him with my 3rd pick had he fallen to me. However, I don't know how this year is much different than last year for Westbrook, it's not like the Philly WR corps was exactly impressive last season either.

better runner this year

as some sleepers I got Jeremy Shockey really late, kinda rolling the dice but he could have huge numbers at TE this year. Also take a look at the Eagles Desean Jackson, with the kevin curtis and reggie out for a while Desean may see a lot of passes go his way and get some good stats, also hes a great Punt Returner (see new england game from 3rd preseason game)

Can I get /sp/'s opinion of this trade? I'm getting Shockey and Moss (not Randy, sadly).

Horrible trade for you, but great for the other guy. Shockey is good, but Witten is better, and Santana Moss is nowhere near the value of Reggie Bush.

Even if Bush isn't that great, Santana Moss isn't anywhere near better.
