They might want to get a defense, first. Trust me, it's important - as you'll be seeing this Sunday.

Hall of famer?

Hasn't Cunningham been eligible for a while now? Has his name even appeared on a ballot?

Eligible since 07 and his name has been on the ballot both years of eligibility.

Ah. Then he might have a shot after every other player that people liked have been voted in. He calmed down with the vikes, but in Philly...dude was a total headcase and people hated him.

Well Carter is a shoe in for next season and I'm unsure of who will be eligible in 09. Randall has failed to make it past the first round both times so it'll be a while.

As for his past in Philly, I for sure didn't live there at the time and I didn't get into football until 97. Being a Vikesfags, I praised him as the original Purple Jesus in 98 for his God like season. Since then, I've regarded him as my favorite QB. Could you fill me in on what made him so hated in Philly? God knows the Twin Cities loved him, at least for a season.

I don't recall specifics at this point, but he was kind of like a T.O. personality. He usually played well, but people just hated him because he was a mouthy prima donna. It was a love/hate thing for Eagles fans (but then, EVERYTHING is a love/hate thing for eagles fans). I was never one of those people, but I grew up in an area with a lot of Eagles fans. In my mind, he stands out as the first of that type of player. But he probably was tame by today's standards.

here's a quote from a story written in 1992:
"In many ways, Cunningham has always been viewed as a prima donna by some of his teammates. His struggles in the four games before he was benched were ominous. He was tossing balls high and low, into the sidelines and onto the turf."

Cunningham was also being coached at the time by possibly the worst offensive mind in football. Buddy Ryan utterly wasted the best years of Cunningham's career with the Eagles.

In terms of HoF balloting, I think he's about the Donovan McNabb of his day--some great seasons, some truly mediocre ones. At the top of a list of "good" quarterbacks, but not really "great." I think he's a longshot to get voted in, though I guess Art Monk made it, so anything is possible.

Is that Bubby Brister? Hells yeah, he's definitely a hall of famer.
