You're right. Pujols has been the best individual player for the last six months... and, the Cardinals were last relevant in the NL Central about three months ago.
You're unfairly dismissing Howard's September surge.
Remember, this was an off-year for Howard, and the Phillies fell on their face and coughed up a 6-game lead right after Randolph was fired as the Mets' manager.
Howard, seemingly out of nowhere, had one of the best months at the plate in the history of the game. It was a September worthy of Babe Ruth's best.
But, more importantly, he RALLIED HIS FUCKING TEAM. They steamrolled the Brewers in a 4-game sweep, and didn't look back until they clinched the division.
Howard is a leader who rallied his roster.
Pujols is the best player in the NL on an irrelevant team.
So, list me moar Pujols stats, plx, k?
