Taekwondo or hapkido? Antonymous
I'm planning to get into martial arts. My vicinity offers two options: Taekwondo and hapkido. I'm really unsure about what would be best, but I'm leaning towards hapkido because people seem to say that the way taekwondo is usually taught today, it isn't very effective for fighting. And to get that embarrassing little line out of the way, yes, I do intend to use it for fighting. I feel a need to explain myself, but I'll hope you won't care if I sound a bit like an internet tough guy.

What do you guys say? Which of them should I pick?

i'm partial to taekwondo, since i practiced it for two years. it was fun while it lasted. i'd say give them both a try, and stick with whichever one you like best

They're both Korean and derived from the same source. I don't have much experience with Hapkido, but being a blackbelt in Taekwondo I can honestly say, at least around here, they don't train people like they used to. Most schools only train for faggot competitions and don't really even teach you the basics which is god damn well necessary.
But seriously, if people say they can't adapt any, and I mean this seriously, martial art to the real world then they are full of shit and watch too much of that faggot MMA shit.

I'm also from a striking style like taekwondo and based on my experience, sparring practice is the most important part if you're learning to fight. Check with the styles and see how much they train their students in real-time fighting.

Those are really your only two options. Have you checked a local YMCA or community center, or just look in the phone book?

Hapkido takes a lot of the same kicks from taekwondo, but it adds in a lot of other things. Such as throws and grapples with joint locks and even anti-grapples. If you are looking to use a style for real life fighting, then take Hapkido. Since most fights end up with someone trying to grapple and take you to the floor, Hapkido will teach you how to avoid or how to take him down first

It's easier to just taekwondo kick someone in the dick. Or fishhook them. Eye gouge?

well in that case its easier to just buy a gun and shoot the guy

>and even anti-grapples

So much fail. SO. MUCH. FAIL.

If your Hopkiddie-do has t3h anti-grapple, then I'm going to say my BJJ has t3h anti-striking.

I come from a very, very small town where the only sport most people care about is soccer. I checked through the town's official register of clubs and organization, so I'm pretty sure I haven't missed anything.
