The Playoffs so far. Anonymous
Okay, in the East, Montreal and Pittsburgh have clinched, devils and rangers and Canes are just about sure to make it, The Sens are kind of falling across the line, the Flyers and Bruins are on the inside looking out, and the Capitals are on the outside looking in.

West--

Wings, Sharks clinched. Ducks and Stars are shoe ins, and three NW teams (Flames, Canucks, Avs) are kinda slugging it out, but so far all three are in. The predators have a chance, if they win out and the Avs start losing.

That about right?

The Rangers have some uncanny ability to kick the shit out of the best teams. The Devils and Penguins stand absolutley no chance, but as of now I want the Rangers to stay in 6th so they can play the Hurricanes.

Red Wings are the best team and deserve to win it all, but obviously they will lose in the first round.

Problem with the wings is that they lacked grit in their last few playoffs. Now that they have Stuart and Drake, and soon McCarty, on their roster they've got some of that toughness back.

>> Anonymous
>>45062

I would consider Colorado dangerous to any team other then detroit in the playoffs. Consider all the injuries to star players they have had this year, and the fact they are still in the hunt. Not to mention the playoff experience with Forsberg, Sakic, Hejduk, Foote, Smyth, Theodore, brunette, etc. If healthy (minus svatos of course) I think they have a shot at beating any team in the west in a 7 game series other then detroit, who are just too strong for them and a bad matchup. On the other hand I think San Jose or Anaheim both have the potential to beat Det. in a series. Not saying they WILL but they match up well.

the rangers are only 1 point ahead of the flyers, and 3 ahead of boston. also, they've lost their last two games against the flyers. so you can't call them in.

>> Anonymous
The Capitals are going to grab the 8th seed and knock off the Canadiens. They go on to beat the Penguins in round 2 (Yes, the Pens will go past the first round before choking).

The Hurricanes then inexplicably win the East, along with the Cup, just to spite everyone.

Poor octo ;_;

Since the Eastern Conference is being so heavily debated,I thought I'd just give my 2 cents on it all.

In the East, Montreal looks like the best team comming into the playoffs, but I just have to wait and see how they can play under the more physical, hard hitting playoff games before I can make any predictions. Also, they're comming into the playoffs with a rookie goalie, and even though it has worked for Montreal before(Dryden & Roy), it was still a huge risk. Pittsburgh is kind of like Montreal; they need to worry about their toughness (last years playoffs Crosby was being raped by Phillips and Volchenkov) and the fact that their goalies both chocked in their last playoffs. New Jersey's defensive, low scoring style of play has brought them a lot of success in the playoffs before, but this year since they lost veterans Gomez and Rafalski, they need players like Parise and Madden to step up big time. Ottawa needs to GTFO it's high horse and play hockey. I highly doubt New York, Carrolina or Philly will make it far considering how tough the conference they're playing in is, but it is hockey, so anything could happen. Boston will be kicked out of its 8 spot and Washington will make it into the playoffs.

Yep.
>> Anonymous
I'd like to see Detroit clinch first and Colorado get the 8th seed, and watch them two go at it the first round. Same thing with Montreal and Boston in the east, but I wouldn't quite count out Washington and Florida coming in fast for that 8th spot.

I think the finals will be Detroit vs. New Jersey, but Pittsburgh vs. Minnesota or Dallas would be a cool finals series to watch

Vigneault likes to constantly change up the lines. And since the Sedins only pass to each other it's not very hard to figure out how to shut them down.

As for the Canucks, they have a nice chance of missing the playoffs altogether because of how inconsistant they are. They have no one that can score on a consistant basis, and for a "defensive" team they like to give up leads all the time.

Not to mention it is frustrating to watch them play. Like watching a complete moron playing NHL '08, just flicking the puck right at the middle of the net where the goalie can just make the save by being in position.

If the Devils can somehow figure out how to start hitting the back of the net at a pace greater that 1 goal per 3 games, they have a good chance of making some noise in the playoffs.

The first thing they have going for them is obviously Brodeur, who can be a brick wall, provided he isn't burnt out from playing every fucking game again this season.

The second thing is that they have been slumping, which means that they could start to regain form in time to make a decent playoff run.

Actually, that seems to be everyone elses argument. Penfags know that Sid isn't Gretzky or Lemieux, but god dammit he is our best chance to bring the cup back to Pittsburgh.

On paper Pittsburgh looks like a fantastic team and you have to admit that. I will be the first to agree that Pittsburgh choked the first round last year and got outplayed in almost every level and aspect by the Sens. That is partly due to the fact that it was half of the teams first time in the post season. And do you remember what happened to the Senators after that series they went all the way to the fuckin SC finals.

I will not say that I know or think the Pens will win it all this year, but I will protest the fact that they will fair way better this year and that they are only get better.

49268 here.

First of all, BenMac it's damn nice to see somebody who's not a raving lunatic.

Second: Don't get me wrong: I think Crosby is a very very good player, and that everybody is jealous of the Pens for having an absurd wealth of young talent. Crosby and Malkin are studs and possibly the best 1-2 punch since Zetterberg and Datsyuk (I'm a wings fan, so the Eurotwins will always be #1 in my heart).

The penguins have a great team this year, and I totally expect them to get past the first round. I'm a little suspect of their defense, though. Yes, Gonchar is probably a Norris candidate, but other than that, they've got a D corps that is competent, but not exceptional.

The same could be said for goaltending, I think. Fleury is a great goalie, but he's not proven in the playoffs. Conklin...well, Ty's got some catching up to do after he screwed the pooch in 2006, but after the year he's had I think he could do it.

I'm going to enjoy watching the playoffs in the east, I think. Especially if Washington makes the playoffs somehow.

>Only fairweather faggots don't think their team can win.

"Fair weather fan" is such a non-insult.

I've been a Pens fan since before you were even drooling at your mother's tit.

You do have that nasty habit of troll-feeding, CB.

There's a difference between "I believe my team has a shot to win the cup" and "MY TEAM IS TEH BESTEST TEAM EVAR!"

It's the latter I have issues with. It's usually trolling, but sometimes people actually seem serious, which is kinda scary.

Believe it or not, I'm actually the OP, and I'm kinda amazed that this thread has gone so long without degenerating into partisan D-baggery and "it's only fitting"slike most other /hoc/ threads do.

Everything said on the internet is obviously true and totally not said just to save face.
