Most boring team.

All the Wings do is play a modified trap turnover game. Instead of left wing lock, they run a 1-4 or 2-3 offense- defense scheme. Keep the puck handler from going into your zone and try to score on a turnover.
The Red Wings had one of the most boring seasons ever this year. No wonder they only had like two national coverage games, no one wants to watch boring Detroit style hockey.

It's as bad as the clutch and grab, trap style pre-lockout hockey.

Who was talking about the Pens here? They at least balance an aggressive offensive style into their defensive package. They actually could have scored more in the season, but were trying to force "beautiful" types of scoring chances when they could have just put it into the net.

Detroit played their system from the preseason.
Boring hockey is boring.
Boring champions even moreso.

>>137335
Devils play an entirely shut down system. Most of their games are one point affairs. They just lack the offensive touch to capitalize of the turnovers they do get.

At the beginning of the season they were losing games because they tried to go to a more aggressive forecheck, and since the players hadn't played that system in NJ, they were overrunning on the forecheck and letting the other teams get odd man and 3-0 breakouts. T

My point is that the Pens were playing the trap as well, not just Detroit. And Detroit still managed to out shoot and out score the Penguins in the series, so they too have the same scoring skill as the Penguins.
>> Anonymous
>>137369
Actually discussing the shortcomings of a team or the style of game that they play is hardly BAWWWWing.

If you can't find anything wrong with a team's performance or some aspect of the game that you don't enjoy then you aren't paying attention.

I'm not complaining that they won, I'm just stating that they are a boring team. Hockey itself has stated that they need to do something to bring the game back to people's attention, and they have stated that again scoring is down. Detroit's style of play is not the solution to these problems.

The Western conference this year was a pretty boring affair. Most of the top scorers came from the East, the Eastern style was a more exciting, more interesting version of the game. The fact that the Pens kept forcing their way back into the games was more exciting than Detroit's "Come to us" defensive style. I was rooting t for the Pens to come back last night, and was on the edge of my seat when they almost did. 2 games that they came back at the last seconds to force overtime is compelling to watch. The Wings on the other hand, got a lead and tried to stop the game, runout the clock, and slide home on minimal trying. Detroit won the game on a goalie mistake, not by virtue of their blazing offense.

The Caps and Ovechkin were a great team to watch, Montreal had a great offense and power play, even Phillie coming back from worst team to go to the conference finals was exciting. The Pens earned their national coverage by the exciting style of play that they use, that's why almost all of the Sunday games on NBC were Pens games.

The West by comparison was the same a usual. The same teams came to the playoffs, playing the same style of hockey that they did the year before, and the year before that. Sure, there were moments of brilliance and excitement, but for the most part they were outshone by the East.

Those 3 OTs were nauseating to watch because it was essentially 60 straight minutes of them doing almost the exact same thing to set up each offensive opportunity.
>> Anonymous
>>137403
The Sharks I'll give you as exciting.

The Flames however, for most of the season they were the lowest scoring team in the league. They won but virtue of goaltending more than their scoring.

Defense may win games, but it doesn't excite the fans. Sure a 1-0 win can be a great game to watch, but not usually. A 6-5 scoring affair keeps the crowd yelling in the stands and people stuck to their tv's.
>> Anonymous
>>137415
Flames are a grind-it-out team, although boring, did have a great series vs. the sharks. I enjoyed that very much.

The overtime madness in the stars and sharks series and the clutch goals going on in the flyers/habs series made for another enjoyable round. the conference finals matchups we're kinda lame, but then games 3-6 we're awesome as well. good playoffs
>> Anonymous
>>137405
Oh boy, a REAL hockey fan. Only your way matters. A good 1-0 game can be exciting, however most are a defensive shutdown fest, dump and chase affairs. If I wanted to watch people throw a something the length of the ice and run after it hoping to score, I;d watch curling.

And exactly what makes you a REAL hockey fan anyway?

Are you one of those people who whines about "tradition" and "they're changing the game too much"
Hockey can't survive if scoring keeps dropping. The league knows it, the players know it, retired player like Gretzky, Lemieux, Orr and Howe all have talked about it, only those stuck with their heads in their asses and the "everything is fine the way it is" attitude don't see that if hockey doesn't do something then we are headed for more trouble. We already had one lockout, multiple teams in Bankruptcy, and the loss of major television coverage. At what point do you REAL hockey fans see that the problems exist?

the 2-line pass rule opened things up, which made for higher scoring, they just need to do things now like make the net an inch bigger and goalie pads an inch smaller. More scoring and suspense makes better ratings.

New Jersey wins games and they had seasons where they barely half filled their arena. Boring hockey is a pain to watch.

Detroit might sell a bunch of crap now, but the merchandise that carries the league through the season is the stuff related to the exciting players.

The exciting players jerseys are the ones that sell, Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Drury, Afinoganov, Briere. These sales are constant throughout the season, Detroit will flash in the pan for a ll the bandwagoners, then fall back into obscurity while the scorers names get put on everyones backs.

They show more Central American soccer highlights than they do NHL clips.

Detroit is only "boring" b/c they are so good. They outshoot every1 else by a ton, win 2/3 of the face offs and score more break-away and shorthanded goals than any other team. And obviously not many people think they're boring because they just won the most watched finals in a decade. A 3 OT game after being up with :30 left and the clincher where they barely surived in the last second. How the hell is that boring hockey?

Detroit is boring. I don't think anyone else can disagree with that.

Detroit isn't a hockey team; they are a well-oiled machine. They play the same goddamn style no matter what line is out on the ice, or whether they are down or ahead by 1. After the game, win or lose, they say the same shit. It's all about focus and playing their game.

Fuck that. I want to see 5 individual skaters flying around the ice like octopi with 4 tentacles cut off. I want to see 2 goons pay no attention to the play and just level a guy on the other end of the ice for no reason other than he said something about their mother. I'll spare you the RAAAAAAAAGE because that hit still makes Wingsfags mad all these years later.

Like Draper's hit on Gonchar, in itself it was borderline illegal. Draper hit Gonchar too high up the back; Lemieux checked Draper in the back/side with his stick.

But the circumstances were completely different. Draper was checking a player with was playing the puck, and he did it by shoving high into the glass.

Lemieux came up behind Draper when Draper was making a change, with the puck no where near him, and put Draper's face right into the edge of the boards.

It's the dirtiest hit I've ever seen in hockey by someone not named McSorley, Simon, or Bertuzzi. Add to it that Lemieux had been suspended the previous game for sucker-punching Kozlov, so it was clear the scumbag was just out to hurt people.

That hit is what really started the Wings-Avs bloodfeud during those years, where they'd brawl at least twice a year, goalies included.

That's funny, all the articles I've seen the Pens have talked about how good the series was and how hard and well the Wings played. Maybe the Detroit press is making things up again.

Perhaps the Wings fans just need someone to look down upon because they're so low class they can;t just take joy in their teams victory without rubbing it in the losing teams face. I guess good sportsmanship is something that isn't in Detroit fans vocabulary, let alone something they practice.

Having lived in Detroit and played hockey at school up there I know that this is true. Wings fans are some of the lowest class fans that I have ever come across. (Outside of Philadelphia., of course.)

Pens fans stayed to watch the Cup presentation when they could have easily left the arena and left the Wings to look like fools carrying the Cup around and empty arena, or booed like the Detroit faithful probably would have done if the victory went the other way.

Even the announcers called it a cheap shot.

Draper could have easily kept his hands down and laid into the body. He chose to raise his hands and drive Gonchar's head into the glass on a hit from behind.

Head shot is a cheap shot.

Hudler's high stick wasn't cheap. Stick came up and caught the other player in the face, drew blood. High sticks happen all the time. He got called for it like he should have.

Draper got away with the shot, the refs didn't call it, but the league does review games after they happen, and if a player throws a cheap shot like Draper did, he can still be penalized after the fact if the league officials fell it is justified. Even a wings fan in this thread called it cheap. If you don't see a head shot from behind as a cheap shot, especially by a player who himself was injured by that type of play as being cheap, well at the least I'm glad you aren't officiating any games, at the most you're delusional, retarded, or a troll.

Having been at the game, almost everyone there had on white. Don't know how you differentiate between Pens and Wings fans.

Some people did leave, but a lot of people stayed. My section of season ticket holders all stayed to show respect for the teams, both Pens and Wings. I highly doubt that as many people that are seen in the pics of the presentation are from Detroit or Wings fans. It's was hard enough to get tickets for the regular season games, let alone the playoffs. Aside from the few that were set aside for Detriot players and the limited number for Detroit fans, the crowd was overwhelmingly Pens fans.

No one that we could hear was booing, but there may have been some (there's always a few idiots no matter where you go). There were several cheers for different players who remained on the ice while the presentations were being made. It wasn't overwhelming like it would have been had the Pens won, or if the game was in Detroit, but it was respectful.

I think one thing they should do is for some penitalies make it only 1 min.

like Fighting only 1 min. More fights = more people watching.

But also if a team is tied they can eaither have a shoot out or a 2v2 with golie period. that basicly means Your two best plays have the win on their backs.

Also i think one thing hockey can do to make more veiwers and money is some promo stuff.

Like have teams help out and shit. Have them build a house and have it publicized. Doesnt cost alot of money and sure as shit gets them on local news.

Oh FFS. Some of the shit I've heard from Pensfags, be it spoken or written:
-Hey, Franzen just returned from his concussion, Roberts better slam his head into the boards extra-hard to get rid of that little problem
-We can't do shit to solve Holmstrom's net presence in a way that demonstrates half-decent hockey sense, Hal Gill should break his legs since it's obviously the only way we're going to be capable of winning games against this team.
-Let's unanimously taunt Osgood during the National Anthem, it's not like we need to show any respect or anything silly like that, we've only started giving a shit about this game since 2006 anyway.

For fuck's sake, Nashville's fans are less infuriatingly smug and classess than Pittsburgh's; even they didn't openly call for gooning games up to Slapshot-like proportions in order to get themselves ahead. I don't know how they were in their earlier series since I was primarily following the West, but some of the shit I've heard them say the last few weeks have been downright appalling. I've always tried to treat the losing teams of series with respect (and yes, as a Wingsfag that's even extended to the Avs), but the Penguins fanbase got a huge dose of karma as far as I'm concerned. Their fanbase is a joke and they complain about us Flyers fans being ruthless? Please.

They had one of the easiest runs in the playoffs, first a dismantled Senators team who half the roster was injured or became injured, the Rangers who.. always overachieve and a Flyers team who lost their 2 best Defensemen in the first two games. They were a fluke, next season will prove it.

Also another LOL @ Hal Gill being able to do anything.

Bullfuckingshit. Pittsburgh has done nothing but improve since Crosby started playing. I've been saying this since the start of the playoffs and it's still true, Detroit is the only team that could have beaten us in the Cup.

I didn't read everything, but I heard some fag bawwing about Jersey sales being the exciting players.

Datsyuk is the best puck handler and deke artist in the game. And his breakaway goal against Turco and vokoun that you can find all over youtube is probably one of the greatest goals i've ever seen besides the Ovechkin goal when he was on his back.

Datsyuk and Zetterberg are as exciting to watch as Hull and Oates were. And I'd rather see Datsyuk than Pavel Bure as amazing as he was. Datsyuk can do the things he did...while in traffic. And he takes the puck away from people with more ease than anybody in the league in the last 20 years. You must not have watched much hockey this year or in your lifetime. Detroit has an exciting style of play for their fans, When your team holds the puck 80% of the game your fans are always excited. Who gives a shit about road games or people who aren't cheering for your team?

Crosby does it easier though. When he wants that puck he takes it.

I'm pretty sure Datsyuk only agreed to play in the NHL so he could play keep away with the other team.

Obviously you've never watched Datsyuk play. Much better than Crosby in that department. I'll say that Crosby is a better playmaker but nowhere near as skilled as Datsyuk on the fore and back-check.
>> Anonymous
>>138117Having been at the game, almost everyone there had on white. Don't know how you differentiate between Pens and Wings fans.

When they panned the crowd when Drake was handed the cup, the Wings logos and red sleeves on the away replicas were pretty unmistakable.

Maybe you were in the upper deck, but when the TV cams on the lower bowl showed absolute desertion, and both NBC's and CBC's mics picked up a lot of booing. In fact it sounded like NBC had to downmix their crowd mics for the trophy presentation and skatearound.

I've seen him play plenty of times. Yes, he's a fantastic player, I'm not saying he isn't, but Crosby takes the puck with such ease it often looks like the other team just gave it to him.

>>138790

No he doesn't, Crosby doesn't do defense, it's not in his vocabulary.
>> Anonymous
The Pensfags booed everyone.
Niklas Lidstrom lifts the Cup: BOOOOOOO
Dallas Drake lifts the Cup: BOOOOOOOO
"The Conn Smythe goes to Henrik Zetterberg!": WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT? GIVE IT TO FLEURY! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
>> Anonymous

I saw the replay that was on the NHL earlier, when Zets was given the Con Smythe the booing was pretty noticeable.
>> Anonymous
>>138812
Why waste his energy on defense when he's so amazing at setting up goals?

I hope the Penguins enjoyed losing the cup on home ice. Maybe it will teach them not to win Game 5 when you don't have a realistic shot at winning anymore afterwards.

Zetterberg and Crosby tied in Playoff points, and Zetterberg had twice as many goals, which in my opinion are more valuable.

Yes, both are tied for the lead
>> Anonymous
>>138790
That statement makes no sense whatsoever. When the fuck wouldn't Crosby to get the puck in his - and therefore his team's - possession? If it was simply a matter of him WANTing to take the puck away the Penguins would have the puck 100% of the time. Datsyuk is quite simply better at doing it.
>> Anonymous

>>138841
Check the stats. They didn't even mention Zetterberg was tied for the lead because they were too busy eating Crosby's vagina.
>> Anonymous
>>138849
Fact. They just kept saying "CROSBY! CROSBY! CROSBY!" throughout the entire fucking series and no mention of Zetterberg EVEN WHEN HE TIED FOR POINTS.
>> Anonymous
>>138825
Ha, no. The Conn Smythe very, very rarely is given to a player of the losing team. Only on one occasion in the awards' history has it been giving to a losing team's player who wasn't a goalie. In any case Zetterberg had more goals, game-winning goals, and a better +/-. Plus he treated *that* 5-on-3 like it was child's play while Pittsburgh's defense stared at him with stupid amazement. No way it wasn't going to Zetterberg.

Yeah, and for all of you saying the Penguins fans didn't boo. I just now watched the recap of both Trophy presentations, and The Pens fans first booed Zetterberg, and then chanted Fleury's name as he picked it up. And then for the Cup, as they called Nick Lidstroms name they booed for a second.

Swedish people largely have impeccable English from what I've encountered. I need to listen pretty hard to Lidstrom or Mats Sundin to hear even a trace of an accent. I also had a couple friends in high school who were swedish (international school, there were all types there). I didn't even know they were scandinavian until their parents called up and they suddenly started yammering away in their crazy-ass winter moonspeak.

They don't have AIDS; it was Flip who had AIDS, and luckily, considering no Piston even liked him to the point of sex, that's over with. On a side note, the Lions have AIDS all over ownership and management (not to mention the players that have ever played for the Lions who weren't drafted, and thus forced, to play for the Lions), so don't blame me when they die again.
