Media manipulation 101: Before the draft, there was a debate as to who would be taken #1. Rose or Beasley. Then we started pumping out the rumors. I didn't like Beasley for some non-specific reason. He had character flaws. We "secretly" worked out O.J. Mayo and Jerryd Bayless. The media started to buy it. All of the sudden Rose became a consensus #1 pick. Writers, analysts, GMs, all of them were convinced by our ruse. The Rose hype blew up. The Beasley stock crashed. And just as planned, the Chicago Bulls took Derrick Rose instead of our man.

Raps got sum tall guy from Georgetown. Pity that we will have to trade him to Indiana for some washed-up player.

it starts with a simple statement. pat riley doesn't like beasley. pat riley is ENAMORED with derrick rose. we let it leak to the press, who think they've made their big scoop. the 24 hours sports media, the internet, ESPN, they feed on it. they start to justify it. talking heads and op ed writers start crafting critical pieces about nothing.

http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-beasley062608&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

before long it is a storm that is out of control. GMs start to panic. start to question the player. What did we miss? What does Riley know? Others take the other route, start to praise Rose's "special" talent. Like such easily manipulated pawns, they talk themselves into passing one player for the other.

And the best part? The day after, no one is talking about it. We got our man Chicago, enjoy your buttload of guards.

OP is a big dickloving faggot.

Teams are not run by easily influenced people whose only source of information is on Yahoo, fag.

tl;dr, rose is a better fit on the heat than on the bulls, vice versa for beasley.

the yahoo article is just one example. look at the media opinion coverage pre-lottery and post. media pressure can influence teams, and GMs are often pressured into bad decisions given their jobs are on the line. if you don't know that you're naive and possibly retarded.

but let me argue in terms u can understand. DURR HURR U CAN'T READS CUZ U GOTS TWO BIG FAT COCKS IN UR EYEZ U KING OF FAGGOTS.

The media op-ed writers don't matter. They have never mattered.

HAHAHA seriously guise, do you think it's a coincidence the whole world knew i "hated" beasley? why weaken our trade position? why have "secret" workouts that everyone knew about for other players? why deliberately lower beasley's stock if for no other purpose than to fool chicago? if we wanted to trade the pick, we'd HYPE him up until teams were frothing at the mouth.

Don't they have scouts for this kinda shit? Jon Paxson fail gm for letting only a weeks worth of trolling get to him.

the media matters now more than ever. you have 24 hour news, blogs, op-ed writers, talk radio, constantly scrutinizing EVERY decision you make. it's ubiquitous. fans start calling for heads, and more often than not heads roll. add to that the pressure of picking #1 in any sport. think manning/leaf. going with the media consensus assures job security, because then it's not your fault - EVERYONE was wrong.

obviously, that's not the only factor. all i'm insinuating is that in a vacuum, john paxson would have been a little more ambivalent about whom he wanted to draft. the media and the heat just helped him make up his mind.

Don't forget Dwayne Wade saying he would like to play with Rose.

I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHA

Hey Bulls fans, enjoy your cute little hometown guard putting up 10/4/5 for the next five years. The Heat will be quite happy with B-easy's 20/10.

from chad ford's espn insider on 6/24/08:

Think you've got the Rose-Beasley debate figured out? One respected NBA general manager who's drafting in the second half of the first round said the Bulls and virtually everyone else is getting it wrong.

"Michael Beasley is far and away the best player in this draft," the GM said. "He's going to dominate in this league. How could you pass on him? I know everyone is talking about character this and character that, but come on, he's not a bad kid."

As for Rose, the GM says he thinks he's overrated: "Derrick Rose is a good player, I get that. But he's not a franchise player. I don't think people are getting with Rose what they think they're getting. He's athletic and plays really hard. But he has just decent court vision and can't take over a game offensively."

When asked about the Heat possibly passing on Beasley at No. 2, the GM said, "It's a joke. He's so much better than anything the Heat are going to get offered. I don't understand it."

One of them has to go.

PROTIP: The Bulls were always going to take Rose.

The Bulls WERE going to take Rose from the start, seeing as they got high on that hometown hype and his "leadership skills". What are those exactly? I'd prefer Beasley, mainly because he's bigger, stronger, and a better scorer. You know, intangibles.

But, Riles...come on, man. The fact that the Bulls fucked up doesn't make you a tactical genius. It makes you lucky. The NBA doesn't need another half-assed conspiracy theory-the Spurs fans are providing us with all we'll need.
