Amerifag here that has been getting interested in soccer/football. I live in Brazil and watch games but I don't understand the commentators so I only learn from what I see on the screen. And in fact I learn nothing from that aside from who is good and who is not. I also play football manager where I get a semblance of tactics/formations understanding.

My question is, how will Rooney, Berbatov, and Tevez all play at the same time? Who will play nearest the goal? Who will handle the ball the most? Etc. As a newcomer to the game, it seems to me that there aren't enough soccer balls to go around, and I didn't even include Ronaldo.

Pic related in that it's a Manchester United player.

Are all the soccer fags in bed already?

Rooney is no longer a striker, and technically, Ronaldo is still a midfielder.

Well the thing is United's forwards never really stick to one position and move around all over the place, but I expect the strongest eleven would start something like this:

- - - - - - - Berbatov - - - - -
Ronaldo - Rooney - Tevez
- - - Scholes - Carrick - - -
Brown - Rio - Vidic - Evra
- - - - - - - - VDS - - - - - - -

Unless United are down with a goal and it's getting near Fergie o'clock I don't think well see all three on the pitch together all that often. I don't even think he'll start the Liverpool match. Rooney will defiantly start that match. Dimi will be nearest to the box as Rooney and Tevez both like to track back and catch the ball more often than Dimi does. I think he'll play better with Tevez.

A fully fit United could beat any side. The back four, VDS, midfield is maybe 2nd best to Chelsea's. Rooney, Tevez, Berba!

Back-to-back CL/PL doubles would be sweat.

The thing is, Nani & Anderson too... so 4-5-1 gets all screwy. Obviously Rooney wants to be the tweener, distributing forward / attacking midfielder, and Berba now goes up top. It's what to do with the rest of em that has me scratching my head, I'm sure SAF will figure it out tho

Anderson and/or Hargreaves will play instead of Scholes and/or Carrick a lot of the time, I'm sure, particularly with Scholes getting on in years.

Nani I think will play whenever one of the other front four doesn't. But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised to see a 4-3-3 a lot of the time, too.

United will play 4-1-5 with Nani and Ronaldo forgetting they play midfield.

He's an Evertonian. He'll start.

Yep, hopefully Scholes makes way for Anderson right now, even though he's young and foolish at times (like Nani) he's got to learn, plus ginger is OLD & still foolish, heh. And Hargreaves is the new Saha... I just wonder what to do with Nani when Ronaldo gets back, because you know Crissygirl will be leaving in the next few yrs, so Nani is def the future at right wing, he needs PT too.

I was thinking moar like 1-5-4, with Rio the only one in the backfield.

Well Nani and Ronaldo can play in the same team, switching flanks and all that.
