John Kurk Is A Fat Fucking Idiot HKK !h7MHU9L/Oo
"The last thing you want from a fourth hitter is for him to be selective." - On why Howard should win MVP over Pujols

So he would want a guy who knocked in 146 RBIs with an abysmal .250 average and .338 OBP over a guy who knocked in 116 RBI's with an outstanding .357 average and .462 OBP?

Please, fire this fucking idiot from Baseball Tonight and get someone who actually knows something about stats.

Becuase Ryan Howard hits homeruns that go over 400 Feet and Pujols looks like a douchebag.

Just because Pujols OBP is like .999 doesnt mean he should get MVP

Baseball Tonight currently employs two adults with Downs Syndrome. Kruk is laughably stupid and Philips is one step away from the intellectual level of your average linoleum floor tile.

It's a shame too, that show used to be so fucking great with Gammons, Ravich, Reynolds and Kurkjian. Now it's embarrassingly bad.
>> HKK !h7MHU9L/Oo
>>368732

Actually, yes it does. It means he's a better player than Howard. Howard struck out 140+ more times than Pujols this year. How the fuck is that being more valuable to your team?

You forgot the most important stat. One of these guys carried his team to the playoffs.

>> HKK !h7MHU9L/Oo

Why not? No player meant more to the success than them. Granted, it was usually the other team's success but let's not argue semantics.

As much as I hate Pujlos, he should get MVP over Howard. All Howard can do is hit Home Runs. Dude struck out 200 times . TWO HUNDRED. WHAT THE FUCK MAN? Pujlos can hit for contact AND hit Home Runs. I'm tired of this notion that a team has to make the playoffs to get considered for MVP. It's ridiculous.
>> Anonymous
>>368725
Not that I'm saying that I think Howard deserves it more than Pujols (honestly, I think Pujols deserves it every fucking year), but Howard for MVP isn't completely stupid.

His average is down and his OBP is pretty bad, but his RBI, HR (it seems like he would hit one every night, and to take the lead or tie it every time, too) lead the league (by 16 and 8, respectively). Howard also has more runs scored.

And by far, the most important statistic in this:

The Phillies are in the playoffs and the Cardinals aren't.

Pujols deserves it more, though. Just saying that there's an argument for Howard to win it.

>>368741
Howard's not even the best player on his own team.
>> HKK !h7MHU9L/Oo
>>368802

If there is an argument for Howard, it's a very small one. He struck out more times than he got a hit. How is that being the most valuable player in the league?

Not everyone in the studio can pick the same people for MVP, otherwise they'd have nothing to talk about.

The producer asks these guys for the answers to their questions before the show, and if they are all the same, gives them their answers and its their job to justify them.

I don't know whether Kruk actually believes Howard should win over Pujols, but I bet if he said Pujols the producer would say "Nuh uh, you're a Philly. Say Howard."

THATS WHY TEH CARDS SUCK AND ARE LOSERS
>> Anonymous
>>368917

It's true. The Cards are a Minor league team (not literally) except for Pujols, Carpenter(Injured) and Wainwright(injured).

Ludwick played well, Glaus is ok, and the rest performed a role, but they just aren't a great team talent-wise.

This year, Albert Pujols had an EqA (Equivalent Average) of .371, a WARP1 (Wins Above Replacement Player, adjusted for the specific season) of 12.8, a WARP3 (Wins Above Replacement Player, adjusted for all seasons) of 13.4, and an OPS of 1.101. For all you non-statfags, Albert Pujols was really fucking awesome this year. John Kruk's a dumbass. I hate everyone on ESPN except Gammons and Kurkjian, and occasionally Buster Olney.

We don't need stats to know this. He's a future hall of famer. He's one of the few players that can be fairly compared to some of the classic greats.

The funny thing is, have you seen Kruk stats? He's actually pretty good. Kruk was an underrated hitter who regularly posted OPS+ of around 140 when healthy.

ITT: Faggots who think the MVP is awarded to a player based on cumulative stats.

Giving Pujols NL MVP is like awarding Best Crew Member to a deckhand on the Titanic.

Stop listing stats without context.

>>368747

>The Mets Bullpen collapse carried the Phillies to the playoffs.

It's always something. What you choose to blame year-to-year is inconsequential.

A year ago, they blamed the starters. The Mets acquired Santana to win that extra game that would've put them over the top in '07.

And, again, they go into another lengthy offseason so their GM can play whack-a-mole with roster issues, while he eagerly awaits the scapegoat for next year's collapse.

Best OBP, best slugging, best defensive player, VORP, etc. Throw a million stats, and a billion hours of ACTUALLY WATCHING BASEBALL and Pujols is the best player in the game. Also, last I checked MVP meant being the best player out of the last six months, not getting hot for two weeks.
>> Anonymous
Metsfag here. Howard should get the MVP. MVP doesn't mean best stats. V = Valuable. As great a year as Pujols had, he still wasn't valuable. Howard drove in a ton of runs during the final stretch and led his team to the division title. Pujols led his team to 4th place. Congratulations, Mr. Howard, you get your 2nd in 3 years.

Ryan Howard has a 122 OPS+. Players who has a higher OPS+ include but are not limited too.

Chase Utley: 133
Andre Ethier: 125
Albert Pujols: 190
David Wright: 145
Carlos Delgado: 129
Carlos Beltran: 130
Brian McCann: 136

AND MCCANN IS A FUCKING CATCHER. WHO THE FUCK IS MORE VALUABLE, A FUCKING CATCHER WHO CAN HIT OR A PISS POOR DEFENSIVE FIRST BASEMAN WHO GOT HOT FOR TWO WEEKS?
>> Anonymous
>>369064

>Also, last I checked MVP meant being the best player out of the last six months, not getting hot for two weeks.

You're right. Pujols has been the best individual player for the last six months... and, the Cardinals were last relevant in the NL Central about three months ago.

You're unfairly dismissing Howard's September surge.

Remember, this was an off-year for Howard, and the Phillies fell on their face and coughed up a 6-game lead right after Randolph was fired as the Mets' manager.

Howard, seemingly out of nowhere, had one of the best months at the plate in the history of the game. It was a September worthy of Babe Ruth's best.

But, more importantly, he RALLIED HIS FUCKING TEAM. They steamrolled the Brewers in a 4-game sweep, and didn't look back until they clinched the division.

Howard is a leader who rallied his roster.

Pujols is the best player in the NL on an irrelevant team.

So, list me moar Pujols stats, plx, k?
>> Anonymous
>>369072

And if Howard was hitting all year, the Phillies would have been ten games up on the Mets and they'd be no race to begin with. That's what I don't get about the argument for Howard's MVP chances. That he got 'hot' in Sept means that he was fucking cold the rest of the year. Howard simply shouldn't get praise for basically playing to his ability for one month. The Phillies didn't pay fucking $10 million dollars in his first year of arbitration just to see him flail at a ball for five months and then suddenly remember he's supposed to be a MLB player in Sept.

Fine. Then, give Pujols the Best Player Award.

But, Ryan Howard is your NL MVP.

>>369075

Point taken. I readily confessed that Howard had a shitty year. But, Howard caught fire. He motivated his team. He produced results. They clinched the NL East.

Pujols had another fantastic year. In fact, Pujols shined as his team slouched slowly backwards to a dozen games behind in the NL Central.
