It's a shame to see it come to an end, it really is. It was such a great games- from the Phelps ownage to the Lighting Bolt to the delicious gymnastics lolis to being on /sp/ talking about said lolis to the awesome opening ceremony... it was fun. I'll definitely remember these games fondly. I just don't really expect the Vancouver or London games to be as awesome as these.
Well, /sp/, tomorrow night we'll watch the closing ceremony and part. I might stick around through NFL season, but probably not.
See you in Vancouver, /sp/.

London confirmed to be shit saying that they're not making it as big as the last few Olympics were. WHY they were chosen, I'll never know.

Vancouver better be the Beijing of WO, seriously.

Why won't London spend money for it?
I think when USA gets their next olympics, they'll spend a shitton on it.

Me, my dad and older brother are planning on going up to Alaska in 2009 and 2010, and on the 2010 trip, stop in Vancouver on our way up and down for Olympic events :>

I am hoping and praying the Hockey events involving USA and/or Canada don't sell out. I would love to see hockey on a world stage again (Last time I saw non-NHL was when US played Russia at the World Championships in 96 at the Joe Louis Arena. US get raped by Russia 6-1 :<......... Here is hoping they won't suck that much in 2010 :>)

yeah right, hockey events are going to be the first ones to sell out. You'll need to sell your house and left testicle for a ticket.

It will be for all the wrong reasons. Native/activist anti-Olympic sentiment here is fucking insane, you're going to see all the protesting and activism of Beijing without the authoritarian police force to have the ability to repress it. Expect 2010 to be a messy Olympics. Pic related, natives fucking STOLE the Olympic flag from city hall and held it hostage Al'Queda style.

Rhythmic gymnastics is over. The games are truly gone.

>> Anonymous
>>291668
why would they do such a thing? fuck, if they would just stop being pussies and actually get INTO the games then we would respect them more.
now i just think that they're a bunch of pussy party-pooping penguins. wasn't sure what to add for that last word but I wanted a fourth "p"

From Wiki:
Opposition to the 2010 Olympic Games in Vancouver[24] has been expressed by hundreds of activists and politicians, including Lower Mainland Mayors Derek Corrigan and Richard Walton. Many of the public Olympic events held to date in Vancouver have been attended by protesters.[25] Non-violent environmental protests at Eagleridge Bluffs in West Vancouver resulted in the arrest of over 20 people and jail time for two local women, Betty Krawczyk and Harriet Nahanee.[26] ***Protesters have also vandalized branches of the Royal Bank of Canada, an Olympic sponsor, in Ottawa, Vancouver and Victoria.[27]***

There are several reasons for the opposition, some of which are reflected in the documentary film Five Ring Circus.[28] These issues include:

* Large expense to taxpayers (estimated at CAN$580 million[29])
* Destruction of the natural environment (such as Eagleridge Bluffs[30])
* Loss of affordable housing . The Anti-Poverty Committee has promised that they would target VANOC officials in their homes and businesses,[31] and on 22 May 2007, "evicted" the British Columbia Cabinet and VANOC officials by trashing their offices in downtown Vancouver.[32] "
* Rising homelessness caused by speculation on land in the Downtown Eastside and divergence of funds from social services to Olympic costs. [33]
* Use, by the provincial government, of the Olympics to force through a 2 billion dollar private public partnership funded rapid transit link from Downtown Vancouver to the Vancouver International Airport, over other transit options [34]
