So, has anyone here ever raced in a time trial (for bicycles)? I'm racing in one tomorrow and I'm really excited.

When I was nine I placed second in an invitational at the Alpenrose Velodrome. I was on a fixed gear Huffy while the other kids were using multigears.

I coulda been a decent athlete, but instead I discovered BBSes.

Time Trials are all about conserving enough energy so that you can still compete at a high level during the race.

Don't push yourself hard at all. If you start sweating, stop pedaling and just coast for a bit.

Thanks.... but I'll have to push harder than that, of course.

This. Also, if you're in a velodrome, don't shift your weight so much going around the curves.

Yeah, swaying like that really wastes a lot of energy.

Also, on race day, resist the temptation to stay with the peloton. You should either try to get out front, or just back behind them so you can get some wind in your face, cooling you off.
