Europe calling, just wondering. What is the general feeling in USA about College vs NFL.
Last spring there was some coverage of the College basketball playoffs and the reporter said something like many thought it was a more pure game than the NBA version.
Is there a similar feeling about College football?

Eurofag here actually. I prefer watching College games when I visit America because all the players seem to 'try' harder if you know what I mean. They give everything because they're playing to get the break they need to be drafted etc to get a big payday. That's why players in the last year of their contracts in the NFL always seem to play ten times better than prior years.

Here we think of college football being an overblown money making scheme for the richest universities that on average has less pace, accuracy, and skill than a typical pro game.

The only thing that keeps it afloat is the loyalty of Alumni and students as well as near psychotic devotion held by regional fans.

"purity" is a bullshit term used to exploit college athletes while the big boys rake in the money.

college sports = minor leagues. it's fun to watch future stars, but it's still inferior to the pros. especially when college football doesn't even have a playoff.

College football is a beautiful sport encased in a corrupt and deplorable system.

Another negative is the glaring inequality of the huge majority of opponents. I prefer the NFL because I like parity and actual competition.

College football is best used as a diversion to waste time until Sunday arrives.

i personally like college football better. however the lack of a playoff system does make it weaker. The passion in college football and the great chance of there being a TRUE upset add to the excitement. teams that people have never heard of can beat powerhouses like App st. it just makes each week something new.

Pro football is definitely superior in terms of the level the game is played at, you see a lot more mistakes at the college level. But the college football "experience" is unparalleled in American sports, especially at one of the big football universities. The fans are absolutely bonkers, and some rivalries are insanely intense. There's a lot more emotional investment in college football. Some pro teams have great fans and great atmospheres in their stadiums, but it just isn't the same without the connection people feel to their alma mater/local university.

The difference between college football and the NFL has a lot to do with whether the fan went to college.

Most college football fans went to college, unless they are SEC fans or Ohio State fans. Most NFL fans did not go to college. Of course, there are crossovers, and Anon is one of them. But for the most part, you have a much higher wage-earning audience with college football, and a much higher redneckian audience with the NFL.

Look at how the sports are presented to fans (compare College GameDay to Fox NFL Live) or what products advertise (college football: luxury cars, NFL: bud light) to see this in action.

Another thing is, and this is an Amerifag talking, I don't follow college football but it seems everytime it comes to an end, all I hear about is how HORRIBLE and plain gay the way the bowl games work. Like certain teams get screwed out of the biggest game just because they lose 1 game when another team in the bowl game may have lost 2 or something. Like I said, I don't follow it so I can't provide examples but I know last year, a lot of people were pissed at who made it to the biggest game and who got screwed out of it and everyone was calling for more of a playoff type race.

The NFL will have more skilled players and the games may be closer, but NOTHING can compare to the excitement you have in college football. The intense rivalries and stadiums that can rock when your team scores a touchdown make it an awe inspiring experience (no joke, I get goose bumps most of the entire game when I'm at our school's stadium).

True, the FBS needs a playoff system, at least an 8 team (4 game) playoff would be a vast improvement. Though, I attend a FCS school so we have playoffs.

you get more insane upsets and hilarious blowouts in college football

in the nfl if your favorite teams blows a game its ok they can still have a shot at the title.

if your favorite team loses in college football the whole season is basically fucked

i like the nfl and college football but college is way more tense and exciting to watch because so much rides on every game

and lets face it, rivalries in the nfl just aren't there

ny giants vs cowboys ehh
vikings packers double ehh
dolphins jets
browns bengals

its never interesting enough
coaches surely don't get fired if they can't beat their rival like they do in college

The majority of NFL fans have never attended a game. The majority of college football fans have attended several.

You've never been to a Redskins Cowboys game.
Also, Giants Cowboys is laughable as a rivalry.

this is just my opinion, but personally i like to watch games played at the highest skill level, in terms of players and coaching.

Giants - Eagles is a bigger rivalry

College football versus NFL for dummies.

If you are part of the south you prefer College, if you are from the north you prefer NFL.

They both have merits. NFL has much more parity, as any team can go crazy on any year, usually quite unexpectedly.

College Football has the same top teams almost year after year, which is why when someone from outside the BCS comes in its a hueg deal that everyone pays attention to. People like the idea of something new, like Boise State a couple years back.

College football is much more accessible to the average fan then the NFL, and I think that is why there is much more team devotion at that level.

Eagles VS. Cowboys has always been good at getting Philly fired up and even more so now that TO is a Cowboy.

Pretty much every team in the NFC east are going to have a decent rivalry considering how tough the conference is.

Jets/ Dolphins was really fun for a while before we became the Dolphails

Before that though, Colts/Dolphins was the rivalry of the AFC before the realignment. And the 'Fins year after year handed Manning his candy ass in the playoffs, laughs were had.

>And the 'Fins year after year handed Manning his candy ass in the playoffs

It happened one time, and that game went into OT.

Furthermore, there was no Colts/Dolphins rivalry. Indianapolis was awful before the Manning era, with an 88-135 record over 14 years.
