Goalie Fights. Anonymous
ITT: Goalie Fights.

It's like watching two walruses try to stab one another, but god knows we love it when they go at it.

Here's a classic image from one of the most legenday hockey brawls. Roy and Vernon, duking it out.

The aftermath of one of Roys fights with a Detroit goalie.

I'm not sure if it was Vernon in 1997 or Osgood in 98, though.

Don't say that quite yet, man. I'm a wings fan, but once the playoffs start anything is possible.

how do goalies even get into fights with each other? aren't they just stuck on separate ends of the ice the whole time? (inb4 western eurofag)

Generally it only happens when two teams really REALLY hate one another. Usually one goalie skates out center ice to challange and the other comes out to meet him.

It's generally understood that players do not fight goalies, though this has happened before.

Oh, and here's a picture of Roy and Osgood duking it out the year after the Roy/Vernon fight. This was a great fight. If I remember right, Roy got a lot of good punches in, but Osgood came out on top when they went down.

I really wish there were rivalries like this nowadays.

Kolzig vs Dafoe is one of my favorite goalie fights

mainly because of the history between the two guys; played for the same team once, best man at the others wedding, etc.

Seems like opposing goaltenders hate Anaheim this season. Gerber & Lalime for example.

That's from Vernon.

It is a true sign of two teams that really hate each other. It's also a team mentality respect thing. Goalies rarely get to fight and they dare not pick a fight with someone who's wearing 60 lbs less gear than them. That Roy/Osgoode fight in 98 made me hard.

>>34674

Man I really miss those days. That rivalry dropped dramatically after Roy left, and after most of the Wings veterans disappeared, this rivalry is nothing now. I do sense another Blues/Wings brewing though... everytime we play the Blues it always seems like a good game.

I'm always kinda stunned how Roy had the balls to actually do the dance, considering what a whiny bitch he actually was.
Bitches lack balls but Roy actually did back the talk up every now and then.

Well...except for Emery. He might be lazy, he might be a bit of a whiner, but you gotta give credit where it's due--the man has a pair of big shiny balls.

Not only did he fight a skater wearing less pads, he fought Buffalo's enforcer who probably outweighed him by 30 lbs and was at least 4 inches taller.

What's scary is that Emery was grinning the whole time.

Hasek flops more than Ginobili. W/ the amount of time he's thrown his stick in his career I'm amazed he hasn't gotten to giving his defensemen treats when the bring his stick back.

Ever hear of Chris Simon?
>> Anonymous
>>34913

Woah, there Anon. Only one person said it directly, and was pretty quickly hushed. Roy is a legendary goaltender, nobody said that. He could run his mouth a bit, yes, but he had the stones to fight when he had to, so he's earned it.

As to the Chris Simon / Todd Bertuzzi dirtiest player thing...I don't think what anybody does off the ice is relevent. By all acounts both Bertuzzi and Simon are perfect gentlemen off the ice, but their reputations are earned. I don't think either is really worse than the other, since intent to injure is injure. It's like comparing Joseph Stalin with Moussolini.

This was kind of an obscure thing, but I'd actually put my money for dirtiest play ever on Jamie McClennen of the Flames. In one of last years playoff games the wings had chased Kipper out of the net, and McClennen was in for about twenty seconds before he took his stick and two-hands Johann Franzen in the gut.

Luckily for all involved, Franzen wasn't seriously hurt, but the intent was there. You have to admit that McClennen's dirtyness/time played ratio is really really high. Even compared to Bertuzzi and Simons.

Pic about 5 seconds before aforementioned event.

Well...I'm a wings fan, but in their defense Hasek did almost take a swing at Iginla...

This is OP:

Look, I'm a wings fan, and for the last three years the team with Pronger on it has eliminated the Wings from the playoffs. I hate that bastard. He's my own private gremlin.

But I don't know that Pronger deserved the same sentence as Simon. There are two big differences I can find between Prongers alleged stomp and the Simon stomp. He's one of the best D-men playing right now, but I hate him and want him to go away so the wings will stop losing to him.

1. Chris Simon's was caught clearly in video and could be reviewed and questioned with ease. The Pronger incident happesns in the far corner in a shot looking at the play nearly halfway down the ice. It just isn't clear enough to definitively say what happened.

2. Because there is no good video evidence...we can't really determine wheter pronger maliciously stepped on the guy or accidentally stepped on him while trying to stand. I know pronger's got a history of being, well, a mean bastard, but circumstantial evidence of "he's a meanie" doesn't warrant prolonged suspension.

So, much as I hate the guy, I dont' think that he should have been given the same sentence as Simon. We just can't prove that it was a malicous stomp. That said, I do think the review board should have given him a short suspension, if only to send the message that players need to be aware of their skates. Maybe 4 or 5 games, just to make sure he learns never to step without looking agian. God knows the last thing the NHL needs is another incident like happened with Zednik.

With all that out of the way, accoreding to yahoo sports, the NHL found a clearer view of the incident. Pronger has a phone meeting with the review board on saturday, so we'll see what comes out of it.

OP again. Sorry for epic long post, but people were being retards and making stupid arguements like "you're a faggot."

here's a link to the story about the review process.
http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=232002&hubname=nhl

TSN provides higher quality footage of the incident. I watched it, and having done that...Pronger needs to be suspended. A long suspension. That looks very very intentional, at least in this video.

Um...I don't know what planet you live on, but here on earth missing Pronger for less than four games out of an entire playoff run does not qualify as "winning the Cup without pronger."
>> Anonymous
>>35007
Except for the fact I didn't say "Anaheim won the cup without Pronger".
>> Anonymous
>>35013

I think what he means is that there's a difference between not having him for 4 games and not having him for 20.
>> Anonymous
>>35015

Exactly what I meant, anon. I hate pronger, but he's a top flight defensemen. I'd rank it something like Lidstrom, S. Niedermayer, and then Pronger (he's third because he takes a lot of dumb penalties).

If he left the ducks would be able to fill that gap short term, but there's no way you can lose a defesneman like pronger for a long time and expect it not to make a difference. Look what happened to the wings when they lost Lidstrom for that short while.

If pronger gets the suspension I think we all agree he should (c'mon ducks fans, look at the video and tell me that wasn't malicious), it'd have a big effect on the ducks performace in the playoffs.
>> Anonymous
>>34894

The best part is, that player tries to run after Hextall gets ahold of him.
>> Anonymous
>>34994

I agree after watching that; Pronger... It looked intentional.

And being someone who has been stepped on by one of my hockey mates (accidentally) whilst wearing skates before, I can honestly say I'd be pised.
