>>347955 One season, and he's still hit or miss when it comes to pitching. Either he's an ace, or he gives up 4 runs in the first inning. He's the best the team has, sure, but he's not a great pitcher compared to pitchers we DID have at one point, or even ones we have now that did much better in previous seasons.
Maholm deserves accolades as being someone that cares a bit, but he shows NONE of the passion that Doug or Nate do, sorry. They rule the dugout, and instead of giving THEM long term deals with tons of money, they give it to JACK FUCKING WILSON.
Seriously, the Pirates have money, they just spend it badly, or funnel it back to shareholders instead of spending it on a good product.
And it doesn't take a shitload of money to put a capable team together every couple seasons. Look at the Marlins franchise. Statistically one of, if not THE, lowest spending team, and they've won as many world series as the red sox have recently. Look at the Rays this year as well, next to last in salary.
So, the Pirates could field a decent team, they just don't. If Bay and Nady were traded earlier in the season, we may have gotten better players and prospects. Unfortunately, they waited for the trade deadline and got jack shit for them.
So, fire everyone, give Doug and Nate huge deals, and make Doug's deal extend into a coaching contract once he retires. All I know is, he does the bench coach's job, and we still pay that fat fuck to sit there like he does something. Fire Russell and the other coaches too.
