Hey /sp/, a sport is defined as:
"an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature"

Is nascar a sport?

NASCAR requires skill, and it's competitive, so by that definition yes

I grew up on NASCAR but I won't say its anything more than motorsport. There is some element of physicality that goes into it since Mark Martin started working out more when he first started and it actually proved to help him alot in the endurance part of the racing.

make up your own fucking mind

jesus christ can we go one fucking day without a completely pointless "it's a sport it's not a sport" discussions?

No one's mind is ever going to change. A bunch of people think NASCAR is not a sport, wrestling is not a sport, bowling is not a sport, figure skating is not a sport...who cares? WHO CARES?

As I define a sport:

-There must be a clear winner defined through completely OBJECTIVE means (NASCAR meets this criteria; the winner is the first person to achieve X number of laps)

-The participants must display great skill and/or athletic power/endurance (NASCAR meets this criteria....barely; drivers spend hours in a sweatbox driving with skill and precision.)

-Participants must regularly face the risk of serious injury (NASCAR meets this criteria easily; crashes occur often and can be life threatening)

I would say that NASCAR is indeed a sport. However, that does NOT make it fun to watch.

NASCAR is a sport. Just because a large group of people do not like it, and the sanctioning body does some stupid things, doesn't make it not a sport. The bigger races can be really fun to watch. though it is not and never will be everyones thing or mainstream.
