Privately finance a new arena for Hartford (around $200-300 million) and have it be state-of-the-art...

Pay the expansion fee and put a new hockey team in Hartford...appropriately call them the "Whalers"...incorporate the previous logos before the franchise's move to Carolina. Retire Ron Francis' number and hang all the other retired numbers from the rafters. Play "Brass Bonanza" after every goal.

Push to host an NHL All-Star game, a Final Four/Frozen Four Tournament, and negotiate for the UConn Huskies to play selected home games at the new arena.

Claim David Booth from the Expansion Draft and name him Captain. Hire Ron Francis as President/General Manager.

This will single-handedly save the NHL.

as much as I would like to see this...it won't happen

currently their pushing for an expansion team either in a southern market or in the canadian market...new england is not in their long-term plans

Okay, you know what

Fuck all you /hoc/ nostalgiafags. back when they were around, nobody gave a fuck about the Hartford Whalers...yet you guys weep for their demise and consider them the best team ever...no, fuck you, they were garbage then and nobody gave a fuck about them...they'll be garbage again if they come back

Also, the Boston Bruins whupped them regularly in what was jokingly referred to as "The Battle of New England" by hockey journalists...it was more like a massacre cuz we whupped them every year...

Former Michigan State Spartans winger...current NHL forward for the Florida Panthers

Rocked as a college player, sucks as a pro

With Boston doing well, Hartford could never compete in the bandwagon market.

You'd also either need to replace a team *cough*Florida*cough* and re-draw divisions, or come up with five more teams (lol no).

I'd say a good solution to that is just, well, have one division in each conference be uneven, baseball and basketball do it...it doesn't really matter because there are still only 8 playoff seeds per conference.

That would mean give the West an expansion team as well. Everybody wins.
