Things pretty much went as expected in Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon, with the Phillies taking game 1 on a fine effort by Hamels. However, Game 2 could be up for grabs by the Brewers with Sabathia on the mound.

The Dodgers pulled off the upset in game 1 of the NLDS with the Cubs thanks to a timely grand slam off the bat of light-hitting James Loney. Manny Ramirez added a solo shot, and the Dodgers got a great outing from Derek Lowe.

Jon Lester was brilliant for the Red Sox as they upset the heavily-favored Angels in game 1 of the ALDS, coming from behind on a mammoth 2-run home run by playoff newcomer Jason Bay, with a couple insurance runs in the 9th provided by Jacoby Ellsbury, who continued his hot run from the 2007 postseason, and David Ortiz, who extended his 12-game postseason hitting streak.

So, how do we feel about the games tomorrow, /sp/?

Agreed.

You guys think Fatassia is enough to get the Brewers a split on the road?
>> Anonymous

Possibly, but the Phillies don't have a shit rotation this season. They're not the Dodgers, but they have some decent pitchers. CC is about all the Brewers have. With Sheets out and Gallardo being back pretty much while still hurting, I don't see them winning a game that CC isn't pitching.

That said, CC could make the series come down tot he 5th game, but he'll have to pitch games 2 and 4.

The Rays and Phillies will most likely win today, though the Rays might have cooled down a bit too much to make it a large margin victory.

As for the Cubs/Dodgers, I think it will all depend on Zambrano. If its this time of the month, as it usually happens with him, he'll throw no more than 4 innings, with a 4+ Dodgers victory, however if he can pull it together and not blame an inanimate object in the dugout, the Cubs could have a chance.

Billingsley brings his A game. Zambrano chokes on 100 years of misery.

I think the problem for the Brewers yesterday was not the pitching as much as the defense behind the mound. Weeks fucks up an easy play, Mike GOLD GLOVE, THEY SAID Cameron misplays one, and Philly goes on to get their only runs of the game.

For as much shit as the bullpen has (rightfully) taken this year, they've been coming up big lately.

And it would also help if they would, you know, swing at strikes or something.

Butthurt brewfag... Hamels owned your boys.

I'd say both of these are somewhat valid, while true Hamels was very good, the Brewers seemed to look at quite too many pitches.

I will gladly admit Hamels pitched great yesterday.

Heavily favored Angels?

They were not heavily favored, ever. Despite going 8 out of 9 against the RS during the regular season, LAA had lost 9 (and now ten) CONSECUTIVE POSTSEASON games against Boston. I did not see one sportswriter who heavily favored either team
