I am worried /sp/.
It has come to my attention that amerifags think they play a tougher version of football than ausfags. I want to see some big hits. Something to prove your point. Also, I like seeing big hits. Keep in mind also that you wear mass amounts of padding.
Some ausfag stuff:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=1Pl-lrr-76M (Notice he got the fuck up)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=J83xvhsM9tY

For the record /sp/, I am not looking for arguments here, just want to see some hits to support the claims of your football being tougher.

What is so goddamned awesome about these Aussie football hits? It seems like the only times there's any hitting at all its somebody going shoulder-first or hip checking into somebody leaping for a jump ball. It's like basketball mixed with crystal meth.

The only reason it seems tougher than gridiron football is the poor bastard on the receiving end has no protection. Are mouth guards at least mandatory, Aussies?

Recent/current WRs that will get in before Ward

Jerry Rice (huge duh)
Cris Carter (same)
Tim Brown
Terrell Owens
Randy Moss
Isaac Bruce
Keenan McCardell
Marvin Harrison
Rod Smith
Torry Holt

There are guys who had much better careers than Ward will have had that won't make the HOF. The only recent Steeler who will get in is Jerome "3.9 YPC" Bettis
>> Anonymous
>>120731
Add Jimmy Smith to that list
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>120731

You seem to be a guy that only looks at pure numbers.

Ward has a number of things going for him.

His longevity, durability and his complete play.

He's arguably the best blocking wide receiver of all time.

He is also the leading receiver in catches and yardage for the storied Steeler franchise.

Oh yeah, Super Bowl MVP.

On top of all that, his career isn't even close to over.

Quite a number of the players you listed will NEVER be in direct competition with Ward.
>> Anonymous
>>120749
Hines Ward was the MVP of what has been called the second worst Super Bowl of all time. I don't think that's going to earn him that much respect.

As for being a great blocking WR, that won't make up for his so-so stats when it comes time for the HOF voting.

You don't seem to realize that numbers are about the only thing that matters for skill positions, unless you're an average QB with barely more TDs than INTs that was lucky enough to be on four Super Bowl winning teams, one that were good enough to win in spite of him.
>> Anonymous

>Hines Ward was the MVP of what has been called the second worst Super Bowl of all time.

>You don't seem to realize that numbers are about the only thing that matters for skill positions, unless you're an average QB with barely more TDs than INTs that was lucky enough to be on four Super Bowl winning teams, one that were good enough to win in spite of him.

>> Anonymous
>>120956
BLOCKING didn't keep Jim Brown out of the Hall of Fame, it ain't getting Hines Ward into the Hall of Fame.

Go ahead, name the best blocking tight end of all time? Since you are fucking retarded and I know you have no idea who Pat Carter is, I will tell you that Mr. Carter does not stay up nights writing his HOF acceptance speech.

CB, face facts, you know nothing about sports. If somebody asked you to point out a free safety you'd probably find Roberto Clemente in ceter field. Every post makes you look more and more ridiculous. Do yourself a favor and just stop.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>120977

You are fucking retarded.

By the time Ward retires, it is very likely he will be in the top 10 in receptions.

What kind of stats do you think it takes?
>> Anonymous
In terms of toughness, Rugby > Gaelic football= Aussie Footie > English Football > American Football
>> Anonymous
>>120956
It is about the only thing that matters for skill positions in getting into the HOF unless you're a QB that has has won several Super Bowls.

I'd put Hines Ward's odds of getting into the HOF somewhere below Tony Gonzalez and above Kurt Warner. If he gets in, it's because he has either ended his career with over 10k yards and 80 TDs, or he wins another Super Bowl MVP, neither of which I see happening.
>> Anonymous
I can't find a video, but, I think during the 2000 season Darren Woodsen had a helmet-to-helmet collision with a Viking's receiver and the receiver had a seizure right on the field. Then, after the game, he had another fit in the locker room.
>> Anonymous
>>121001
His production has been dropping. He hit his peak about four years ago, and his stats will only keep dropping. He may end up close to the top 10 in catches, but his yards and TDs will be much further down in the ranks, among players with no chance in hell of making the HOF.

Siding with Capitalist on this one, YOU obviously know nothing about the hall of fame. You do know you are voted in right? Hines Ward is a player's player, a hard worker all around pure effort guy that adds more than just yard/td stats as a receiver. Everything named in>>120749is a valid argument, I don't understand how you could think these are moot points.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>121081

He's missed some games due to injury the past 2 season.

>>121081

>If he gets in, it's because he has either ended his career with over 10k yards and 80 TDs

He's going reach both of those statistical benchmarks easily.

Hell, it's possible he reaches both those landmarks THIS year.
>> Anonymous
>>121098
10,000 yards and 80 TDs doesn't even mean shit now. There will be a handful of modern era wide receivers who do much better than that and get left out of the Hall. The biggest problem for Ward is that in his era, his stats aren't that impressive. There are too many other wide receivers with better resumes that will keep him from getting in.
>> Anonymous
>>121127
>He's missed some games due to injury the past 2 season.

Which coincides with the fact he is getting older, slower and frailer. What he has accomplished relative to his age so far is not good enough to get into the HOF.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>121154

>10,000 yards and 80 TDs doesn't even mean shit now. There will be a handful of modern era wide receivers who do much better than that and get left out of the Hall.

Most of the players with better stats have serious attitude and image problems.

On the other hand, Ward is squeaky clean and has a done a lot of philanthropic work in Pittsburgh and South Korea.

Not to belabor the point, but he is a SUPER BOWL MVP. TO and Moss aren't.

I'm also assuming that he finishes out his contract. His stats, as they are now, are not HOF material.

Siding with CB in the Hines Ward blocking argument; that hit on Reed was textbook. You are allowed to put your facemask right between the numbers to control or (in this case) beat the defender.

The one thing you can't do is put the crown of your helmet on the jersey; that's a spear and is very dangerous for the spearing player.

As for Hines Wards HoF credentials, lets see his career through, then talk. I do agree he's an all-around player though.

I think it hasn't been noted yet that the average career of an American Football player is much lower than any other full contact sport.
