Misdirection to combat overzealous linebackers. Running to setup play-action. Blitz packages based on blocking schemes. Pulling lineman based on defensive packages. The many, many passing plays based on patterns designed to confuse DBs. Should I go on?

Baseball...well I guess in the NL you have to decide when to pinch hit for your pitcher. And then there's....well I guess your pitch sequence is important. I'll give you that. It's not even really a team sports save for the relationship between the catcher and pitcher and the occasional double play.

You make a CLAIM that football is more strategic, and tell people to refute it, and that's it.

They both take strategy, and I'll explain why baseball TO ME is more exciting.

People like football because the idea that every play is a big play. Each play has the potential to be a highlight reel that will be played for generations.

In baseball, every single pitch has that potential.

So while you believe that football takes MORE strategy, I doubt you've ever been part of either thing outside of rooting for the high school team while playing the tuba you fatass. Both require strategy, and paying more people to come up with plays doesn't mean it requires more, they just think it does.

Yea, because you just can't miss those 2 foul balls at the top of the 4th. For a game that takes 3 hours to complete, baseball only really contains 9 minutes of actual playtime. Either way, baseball fans are all old, crotchety drunkards.

34,805 (84.2% full) and are 12-0-1 in series play since the All-Star break.

I live in Tampa Bay, I try to make it to as many games as possible, but all I can afford are nosebleed seats. I'm a poor collegefag, so I can't even go as often as I want.

There's pretty much no market in St. Pete, the area consists of mainly of older retired people. The middle of Florida really isn't a good market for sports period, all the exciting stuff happens in the northern part (Gainesville, Tallahassee) and the southern part (Miami). The tampa bay lightning, and the Orlando magic are in the same situation. Pretty much only the Bucs are doing well

Tampa, like Miami has a lot of transplanted people who still root for their old team (Yankees, Red Sox, etc.) that only go to games when their favorite team is in town. If you took away all the people from Tampa/St.Pete/Clearwater who were not either 90 years old or from somewhere else, you would not have very many people left. Its not like a lot of other cities where people have lived in the same city their parents, grand parents, and great grandparents lived in.

I would imagine the Phoenix teams have this problem too.

When the Rays are 100 years old we'll see what their attendance is, then, won't we?

Anyway, Comerica seats 7,000 more than Tropicana Field does in its current configuration, so it's no surprise they have a higher paid attendance. Something like 40% of all MLB ticket sales are corporate season tickets anyway, and the Tigers obviously have a longer history and larger market

Baseball highlights are so fucking stupid.

I'm tired of seeing some guy jump, dive, or otherwise fall over to make a catch. Not to mention the same fucking double plays every single game. It's not particularly impressive, and it's pathetic that it's all baseball has to offer. What a crock of shit.
>> Anonymous
>>307313
this. I always feel like ive seen the same thing every time baseball or baseball highlights or on. I dont mind going to local games and rootin for them, or for the marlins who ive liked since i was little, but football blows baseball away in terms of excitement, strategy, variety, etc.
Whoever said baseball is 3 hours, but about 9 minutes of gametime pretty much hit it on the head. Football can relate too, but baseball is just pitch, pitch pitch pitch hit, foul, pitch hit foul, pitch hit..out
football is a shit ton more things in one play.
>> Anonymous
>>307069
Actually, when the team was introduced to the market in 1997, a lot of Tampa residents were really eager to follow the Rays. We knew that we wouldn't be a good team right off the bat, but management wasn't doing anything to make the team better. People got frustrated/lost interest.

>>307078
THIS. The sooner the Rays figure out that having their home games played in St. Pete is fucking retarded, the sooner they move across the bridge, and I can guarantee that attendance will shoot up pretty quickly. It's really hard to make it to a game, when the game starts at 6:30-7, you get out of work at 6:00, then have to drive more than a fucking hour across the bridge, in rush hour traffic (because a lot of St. Pete workers work in Tampa) just to get to the game. Attendance on weekends is actually doing pretty good, the average is lowered by the very low figures during the work week.

These people are probably Red Sox and Yankees fans. They're very butthurt over what's happening this season.

Also, with the amount of bandwagon faggotry in the MLB, merchandise sales would have to be through the roof. NFL's fans are very loyal and will follow their team no matter the outcome. Except the Patriots. New NFL fans become Patriots fans because they don't know any better.

It's easy to sell out every game when you only have 8 home games a season also it's easier to digest if you only have 16 games a season too. Also every league has it's bandwagon faggotry.

MLB is doing just fine and it's killing the NBA and the NHL and it's doing pretty good against the NFL. I can't stand how the NFL does it's business since they're such faggots for exclusive contracts and retarded rules for TV. Analysis of the poll by a guy who once too a stats class.

Football has been more popular than baseball in the United States for awhile, so it shouldn't be surprising that more people are excited about football.

The results may be skewed towards football from an influx of football fans to ESPN's website. Since college football has started and the NFL is about to get going, it's likely quite a few football fans are visiting because it's football season.
>> Anonymous
>>308284
It's from the Internet. Also they didn't go into NY and do a proper poll of people who would care about baseball or football. That poll is of every american user of ESPN.com It doesn't represent how much New Yorkers care about football or baseball overral it's asking about right now. That's what I'm getting at.

I don't think ESPN cares about anything but money. If they have more football programming it's because that's what the people want, not vice versa. What would they have to gain from trying to make people like football or from driving baseball fans away?

Further, I don't really buy that they're pushing anything at all. I see plenty of baseball highlights on Sportscenter.

ITT: Baseball fans BAWWWW over the fact football is a superior sport.

Cry more faggots, baseball is a sport played by lazy spics who enjoy standing around and chewing gum. Strategy includes the ability to catch a ball in the air and on the ground, and determining whether or not you can hit a ball. w0w hardcore
>> Anonymous
I think ESPN did a service to baseball by splitting football in half like that. Could you imagine if the poll had simpy asked, "Which are you more excited about, baseball playoffs or upcoming football season?"

That would have been a spectacle.

I don't disagree either. Baseball is my #1 sport but managers are overrated in baseball. The most they do is affect how the bullpen is used. In football a new coach can win you a championship as much as in baseball a new Starting pitcher. If I wanted to coach I'd coach football.
