The Whalers had awesome attendance through the 80's and early 90's....it was Karmanos that killed the attendance...see, Hartford hockey fans enjoyed buying mini-season ticket packages, and they sold very well...Karmanos had it so the only packages that were available were full season ticket packages, plus he raised prices for regular single ticket seats.
Also, in the 90's, the liberal Connecticut government raised taxes and instituted many fees for corporations in Connecticut (which was once considered the Delaware of New England)...this scared many corporations away who moved down to Texas, Florida, Arizona, etc...in order to run their operations cheaply...working-class Connecticuters lost their jobs en masse, and Connecticut no longer was the corporate haven it was in the past...
The only teams we have here now are the Hartford Wolfpack and the Connecticut Huskies. I want my Whalers back!
