1596 pounds of force Anonymous
one rugby hit with no pads on, just saw it measured

lets see a soccer faggot take that kind of hit

rugby > soccer
>> Anonymous
the nfl player hit even harder
4800 pounds of force, or the equivalent of a 35mph car crash
>> Anonymous
OH yeah thats super. 35 mph. The rugby hit was measured to be akin to being hit with a sledge hammer. Twice. If I could choose between the two, I know what I'd pick.

Sauce? Theres a tv show here called Sport Science that compared a rugby hit to a football hit. The football hit was 10X harder.

How much players get hurt =/= how good the sport is.

The Youtube link says what anybody with sense knew all along

Neither is particularly safer to play than the other. They are the two most brutal sports of any importance.

>>185786
Jammer isn't even the hardest hitter and his hit delivered 3 times as much force as a Rugby hit. If they would have gotten Brian Dawkins, it would have been 5 times as much.

Gridiron = Rugby >>>>>>>>>>> Soccer

I'm not sure about Soccer and Rugby, but that sport where they chuck the oranges at each other from the big spoons is the best.

Rugby and American Football are the only two sports worth a damn.

I would give the edge to Gridiron, but I think we're still on the same page about them being in a different stratoshpere.

The rugby tackle would be harder if it was just a strait tackle. But the ponit of a tackle in rugby is to control the player and where he lands, or more specifically, where the ball lands so you can continue forward as fast as possible. If he pust speared him for a tackle it would've been harder.

By the way, soccer was never about big hits or anything like that.

If they showed rugby on tv here, many NFL fans would watch it and love it.

NFL and Rugby are very similar in many facets.

The NFL probably has a lot to do with it not being aired.

you>>185945
are a soccer loving faggot, football and rugby are superior sports

They showed the rugby world cup on OLN, and I don't remember it setting the American sports world ablaze by any means.
>> Anonymous
>>185833
I'd say that due to the nature of the forces in the greater single hits in an NFL setting it's a little harder to shake off the cobwebs from a big hit, whereas the pain is probably a lot more concentrated in the rugby hit, requiring a lot of heart to push through the specific hurt. As opposed to trying to bring the world back into focus after the football hit.

Both just amazing sports though, great athletes all around.

there you go, OLN (now VS) is not mainstream coverage. i don't remember ever hearing the word rugby during sportcenter, and they cover the shit out of soccer in the last year
>> Anonymous
>>185955
what the hell is OLN? people will not watch it if it's not advertised and carried on a station that people have/know.
>> Anonymous
>>185993
OLN = Outdoor Life Network

used to be mostly hunting/fishing shows, and some fringe stuff, then they got the NHL which helped their ratings. this past year, same channel is called VS (versus) more mma stuff, NHL almost everynight

Soccer would be tolerable if they had a replay official with the power to toss out floppers.
>> Anonymous
>>186081
Would actually be a good idea. Give anyone who dives a three match ban, people would soon stop doing it.
>> SaiGAR_Loser !!2OQL1suPfp+
>>186081
Refs should toss out floppers anyway but they hardly ever do because they're pansies and afraid of being wrong.

What I do when I ref is teh first flop I see I call the player over and give them a little chat basically don't pull that shit or you get a card. They flop again and it's a Yellow. They should use it what it's for and give them a Caution.

>>186081
Remember a couple of years ago when Sean Taylor spit in Michael Pittman's face during a Skins-Bucs wildcard game? Pittman gave Taylor a nice jab to the helmet then started roughing him up some.

I believe Mike Carey was the official, and he and his crew conferred and got the call right, and Sean Taylor got ejected for spitting.

In soccer, one or both those players would have been rolling on the ground like they had been mortally wounded, and the ref would legitimize that behavior by carding whichever player hadn't hit the ground first.

it was a comment about any union, i don't even know what sport we were talking about

but you are definitely a good recruit for a union, do you smoke crack?
>> Anonymous
Why are you comparing a Rugby hit to soccer hit? Soccer is a non contact sport. You're not even supposed to touch the other fellow. Just like in Basketball.

Also do you know where soccer players get hit the most? Their knee, shin, and ankle. Where it is mostly TENDON and BONE. Not covered with fat or muscle. So of course rugby players could get hit a lot harder and still manage to stand back up.
>> Anonymous
>>186169
hey soccerfag

those pussies wear shinguards

also, if they stop diving, there will be over 9000 less knee injuries
>> Anonymous
>>185779

It can't be that scientific if they're using lbs (or kgs) as a unit of force.
>> Anonymous
>>186187
Of course they wear shinguards, because even though it's a NON CONTACT sport, they still get clipped, tripped, tackled, etc, and, as you put it, dive.

Rugby players are trained to get hit. Soccer players are not. American football players are trained to get hit, they still wear pads. Now that's a pussy

lbs (pounds) is the english unit of force. Doesn't help that it's also the unit of mass (lb) (not weight, because weight = gravitational force on object with mass).
>> Anonymous
>>186201
Gee, I've never heard of POUNDS PER SQUARE INCH as a measurement of force.

>>186202Did you watch the video? 4,800lbs vs 1,800lbs per hit. If a football player got hit like that without pads, probably at least 2 times out of 5 he'd die. The end result in terms of force applied to the average ball carrier in football and a ball carrier in rugby is about the same, 28,000 per game.

Same shit, different delivery.

>> Anonymous
>>186647
Hey retard, FYI I don't have any "pre-conceptions" that soccer is gay or a bad sport. It's a sport I don't particularly care for, but I don't hate it. Quite being a faggot and thinking one or two faggots who post LOL SOCCER SUKS DICK = all of Americans, and maybe you'll stop sounding like a prick.

That said, MOST of Euro so far that I've seen has been highly entertaining. Will I start watching soccer as closely as I do the NFL? No. It's entertaining when nothing else is on and I loved watching the Netherlands play. Now that their out I'll probably only watch until Germany is eliminated. So I don't find it to be a bad sport, as I've said. Jesus you Eurofags can be bitter.
