I'm a football nub. Tell exactly what happened to this guy.
>> Anonymous
He was the best running back ever and ended his career early because he was stuck on the god damn Lions.

OP here. Just wondering, if he didn't decide to retire, would he be still playing today?

juke master barry sanders. check youtube for some highlight reels, he's crazy

No not today be he still had a good 5+ years to play if he wanted, he retired in 1998 after ten seasons and was only about 1,500 yards behind Walter Payton's all time mark. In comparison Emmitt Smith played 15 years and later broke the record with 18,355. In every year Barry played he recorded over 1,000 yards so if he could have quite possibly ended his career with 20,000+ yards. After he retired he got into a legal battle over the left over money from his contract and had to pay the Lions back, he later said he felt the Lions weren't going to improve(which hold out to be true to this day) and it took the motivation away from him to play any longer.

Why didn't he just demanded to be traded to another team?

probably not. barry sanders was seriously (as in seriously, i mean one of the rawest and premier cases) gifted. i'm not saying he didn't try, cause lord knows he a had a great work ethic.

but ever since he was at oklahoma state, he made no secrecy over the fact that he did not like football. or at least today's football. he just wanted out.

and good for him.

Because he was the definition of class. We're talking about the man who never made a gaudy touchdown celebration, who never even spiked the ball. I think this article sums up the player and man Barry was. http://espn.go.com/sportscentury/features/00016456.html

Just imagine Barry Sanders running behind the Chiefs offensive line of the same era. Can you say "2,500 yards a season" ?

The old cheifs line. Now that Roaf is gone...meh.

my favorite football player ever, I'm a Bears fan and it was always fun watching him tear them apart. I got so many bad looks when watching Lions/Bears games ;/

Heh, just imagine him on the 49'ers. Dallas had Emmitt, if we had Barry it would have been ridiculous.
