Campbell. What the fuck was Lombardi thinking trading Visnovsky for fucking Stoll and Greene. Now we have to spend money just to meet the cap floor.

why does everyone have a boner over hossa?

i'm not saying he is a bad player, but for the amount of money he will be looking for it's a shitty choice.

His value skyrocketed after his performance in the playoffs. I still don't think he's worth the kind of money he'll get though.

Hossa.

Tampa Bay makes me laugh.

Prospal was a steal and they give all that money away to MALONE.
>> Anonymous
>>197527
Malone is a gritty player, and a huge locker room guy, but his stats aren't impressive enough to command such a huge contract.

I agree that it was a stupid decision on their part.
>> Anonymous
>>197524
Brad Stuart is unlikely to return to the Wings. He wants to be in California since his kids from a previous marriage can't leave the state. Frankly it's not all that bad a thing, we have a logjam of defensive prospects in need of some proper NHL experience. I'd much rather get rid of Lilja than Stuart but either way it allows Meech and Ericsson to rotate in that 6th defensive spot.
>> Anonymous
>>197527
lol 3 months ago you wouldn't get off Malones dick.

He is a great player that is getting better every single year. He has a huge heart, and his stats don't nearly define what he does on the ice (much like Ryan Smith.) The guy will block a shot with his face, get up, and take another. Any team would be in idiot not to want him.
>> Anonymous
>>197283
Hahahahaha, sorry kiddo, the Lightning's back end is pretty much guaranteed to be filled up with AHLers now.
>> Anonymous
>>197532
But to give him 4+ million a year is insane.

I hate Pittsburgh but I love Malone, I would kill to have him on the B's just because he fits the team's mold to a T.

I'm thinking TB just wants him to protect Stamkos.
>> Anonymous
>>197532
He is absolutely NOT worth as much as/more than a player like Lidstrom or Datsyuk, end of story.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>197530

>Malone is a gritty player, and a huge locker room guy, but his stats aren't impressive enough to command such a huge contract.

I agree 100%. In fact, he was one of my favorite players. I'm happy for him. He is making almost as much as Crosby and has never scored more than 60 points in a season.

Good for him.
>> Anonymous
You guys are forgetting that the salary cap has rose again, which means players are going to get paid more. Hell, look at Jeff Carter. Now making 5 million a season. Teams are paying players for that type of hockey now. In my eyes, Mike Richards is defining the new NHL with the nonstop playoff type hockey, and teams are dying to have players like that on their roster. Malone is exactly that type of player.
>> Anonymous
>>197541
He was easily the only guy I liked on their roster outside of Hossa and MAF
>> Anonymous
>>197543
If someone who had 30 goals because he played on lines with Malkin and Crosby warrants a 7mil contract, Zetterberg's contract extension next season is going to be frightening.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>197543

Malone's stats are inflated simply because he had hart and art ross trophy runner-up Malkin as his center. He barely scored 51 points even with that kind of talent at center. T
>> Anonymous
>>197543
I disagree, in my opinion people are still gunning for people like Crosby and Stamkos.

Guys like Maone, Richards, and Lucic would have been much better off in the 70s.
>> Anonymous
>>197541
When Crosby signed, the cap was different and he couldn't make much more a season. And he could have made more, but the Penguins convinced him not to because of cap issues.

I doubt you'll see Malkin do the same.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>197549

>I doubt you'll see Malkin do the same.

Malkin has said that he doesn't need to make more than Crosby. He might change his mind after seeing that Malone contract.

Giving him 3+ is insane. Malone deserved a raise, not that big of one. 2.5-3 tops. Anything higher than that, hit the road. That's why the Flyers traded Umberger, he wanted a bit too much, Columbus is rumored to have offered 4+ a year, ROFL.

>> Anonymous

>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
Hossa is "considering his options".

What does that mean?

He is taking his offers to the Pens front office in an attempt to get a better offer. He wants to end his career on Crosby's wing. That could be the difference between a Hall of Fame career or an above average one.
>> Anonymous
>>199057

Too bad there's no way the Pens are going to pay him as much as someone as crazy as Edmonton is. Even if they do, do you really want to be saddled with a long term deal where Hossa gets paid as much as if not more than Crosby does now?
>> Anonymous
Ryder at 4 million a year!? Holy fuck thats too much. That faggot Hossa is going to fetch 9 or 10 million for sure now. Massive overpayments today.
>> Anonymous
>>199061

4 million is not bad for a guy who can put up 25-30 goals a year. now only if we hadn't given away Brad Boyes :(
>> Anonymous
NHL is going to be full of teams not making a profit.

just like soccer in spain and england
>> Anonymous
>>199067

If he actually does that sure. I'm worried he's going to suck like he did last year. I'd say he's worth 3 mil a year max as a gamble, hopefully I'm proven wrong and that 4 mil a year looks like a steal.
>> Anonymous
>>199057
So you honestly think the Penguins would have 3 players making 8+ million a season long term?
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>199090

I would have absolutely no problem with that.

Have you been paying attention to the ridiculous contracts signed today?
>> Anonymous
>>199097
So you're looking at over 60% of your teams 25 man roster in 3 players. I guess that's how you build a team with such amazing scoring depth, right?
>> Anonymous
>>199110

Seriously not a good idea. But it's a moot point anyway, some team is going to pay Hossa more than the Pens anyway, and they'll be better for it too (not that not having Hossa is a good thing, but not having to spend outrageous amounts of money on him is a good thing).

>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>199179

>Pittsburgh can't afford to match/exceed.

Totally wrong. Pittsburgh had one of the smallest payrolls in the NHL last year. Crosby being bumped to 8.7 Million a season will move them up but there was also a VERY LARGE increase in the salary cap. They could easily sign Hossa. That may require some tough choices in a season or two but you are fucking moronic if you think it can't be done.

Hossa is easily a 100 point scorer on Crosby's wing.
>> Anonymous
>>199184
Hossa is easily an 80+ point guy on his own, it's not like he really needs a Crosby.
>> Anonymous
>>199177

Auld is a decent cheap backup, there's nothing wrong with that signing. He's definitely not good enough to be a starter but is good enough to take over for a couple games.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>199187

I agree. However, we very well might see a scoring leader board with the 1, 2 and 3 spots occupied by Pittsburgh players next year.
