So my friend gave me an extra ticket that he had to the Red Bulls/Galaxy game yesterday. It was my first time at a professional soccer event and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. How the hell can I start following more soccer?

go to more games, join some football forums, watch foreign league matches you think you would be interested in streamed online.

If you're from New York, don't expect much from the red bulls team. Red bulls v. Galaxy is the only home game that will get any good fan support, and now their team sucks due to altidore leaving and reyna retiring

If you want to see some cool stuff, go to Barcelona's friendly against them last next month at Giants stadium and maybe even the Italian Supercup if it gets moved here. New york area fans might hate the red bulls, but they come out in flocks to see great players

I went to this also. I don't get all the buzz around Beckham.

Oooh, he's good at free kicks. The one kind of shot where nobody is challenging you.

That's like liking the best free-throw shooter in the NBA. It just shouldn't happen.

>>221749
He's over-hyped and over-rated. He was good in England but he was found out in Spain. That's why he left Europe.
>> Anonymous
>>221752
Are you fucking retarded. He was a key part of madrid's championship winning team last year dumbass.
>> Anonymous
>>221749That's like liking the best free-throw shooter in the NBA.
Kicking the ball from long distance, over the wall and place it where you want is not as easy as free throws. Plu the goalkeeper will try to stop the ball.
Go try it yourself and compare it with free throws.
If you're still arguing this, then you're an idiot.

6 english premier league titles, 2 FA Cups, 1 Champions League trophy, 1 La Liga trophy, 1 Spanish Super cup and others.
Maybe you don't see him do tricks and run past defenders like C. Ronaldo or Ronaldinho, but he contributes in the game with his vision and accuracy.

>>221752

found out in spain?

why don't you go look up what happened when capello said beckham would never play again for madrid? and what happened after capello finally got off his high horse and let beckham back in the side?
>> Anonymous
Ah, the old "is Beckham good or not" discussion. Always so fascinating and original.

@Beckhamfags

He was with Madrid for 4 seasons and won 1 League title (Cup? Fuck off who cares), that's a bad run by Madrid's standards. Also the title was only secured in the last game of that season when Beckham was taken off and replaced by Reyes who scored 2 goals.

He represents the worst aspects of the 'Galacticos' era at Madrid. In terms of what he contributed on the pitch he wasn't worth what Madrid paid for him, or his high wages. But he did make them a lot of money in shirt sales. Capello was ordered to put him back into the side by Mijatovic because he was selling some much crap for them. The fans wanted Reyes in the first team.

Also, just look at how epic England's failures have been under Beckham's captaincy. Surely even you Britfags would have spotted that he's not the player he's hyped up to be at this point?
>> Anonymous
>>221773

well, he was great player in his early Mantchester years and he still is okish
>> Anonymous
>>221773
FOR FUCKS SAKE.....
he played with ZIDANE, RONALDO, FIGO, RAUL during his time in Madrid.
If you're looking for someone who can single handedly win trophies for a team, then it's not Beckham.
And Madrid wasn't stupid enough to buy and pay a player just to sell shirts.

Settle down, I know he's your hero and everything but try to be rational. I didn't say they bought him to sell shirts, and I said that he was one example of what was wrong with the Madrid Galacticos at the time.

lrn2fuckingread idiot.

>>221774

He's a very good player, his best years were spent with ManU and the move to Madrid didn't turn out well for him as a footballer. Financially he did very well though, and his move to MLS was made for financial/celebrity reasons obviously.

And again you demonstrate your stupidity by putting words in my mouth. Good work. My argument is really crashing and burning here.

You're reaching quite a bit there. How about you try knock down my argument with some facts instead of deliberately misreading the facts that I've posted.

Come on, I think you're an idiot. Prove me wrong.

>>221812Come on, I think you're an idiot. Prove me wrong.
I'm not falling for that.
How about you try to explain those parts of you post I quoted first.
I get the feeling that you went the wrong way without any solid facts to prove your points.
Come on, Impress me!!
>> Anonymous
I'll just presume that you know you're very wrong and don't have a leg to stand on. But because you are a Britfag you feel obliged to stand up for him.

I've pointed out his flaws and I have made a mockery of this>>221752

It's me that need convincing here. I think he's over-hyped and over-rated and he spent most of his time at Madrid on the bench. I don't watch MLS and I'm not a big fan of the EPL so his achievements at ManU while impressive don't make him a true great in my book.

If anything he has made sure that there will be no more big signings of English players to Spanish clubs for a long time.

Have you anything to say in his defence or does your whole case rest on nit picking my sentences? English isn't my first language so bear that in mind please.

>>221837English isn't my first language so bear that in mind please.
Same here. So I'm not a britfag.
I think all people that think he's overrated and over hyped don't realize that he gained his popularity not just by what he shows on the pitch. We all know he's a perfect marketing tool with celebrity status. And people expect him to perform on the pitch with the same godly level.
But behind that I'm sure that I am one among many others that know the qualities he has and what he does best on the pitch. And we all see him delivering consistently, even still showing his qualities in MLS.
He's maybe not among the all time greatest, but he's one of the few best ( if not the best) in set pieces and crosses.

I'm thinking the current Fulham is more AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI rather than USA.

Support Liverpool if you want to win it next year, and next, and next, just like an Energizer bunny.

Newcastle for the nostalgia (which even fails, love it!)

Support Sunderland if you don't want to be seen as a Man U bandwagon fan, they're so much alike, but on extreme ends of the table.

Pic needs an update, but at least 17 out of 20 were still relevant.
