Los Angeles have the best sport announcing of all-time.

Vin Scully? Chick Hearn?

Come on, you have to agree we win in this category.

Even our hockey guys are somewhat good.

Jimmy Fox is pretty good, too

You forgot Bob Miller for the Kings.

No one fucking cares about the Ducks so they don't count.

Don't forget that we have Bob Miller for the LA Kings, too...a great hockey announcer who's talents are wasted in this non-hockey town.

Dick Enberg used to do the LA Rams, too. Oh my!

On the scoreboard in right field it is 9:46 p.m. in the City of the Angels, Los Angeles, California. And a crowd of 29,139 just sitting in to see the only pitcher in baseball history to hurl four no-hit, no-run games. He has done it four straight years, and now he caps it: On his fourth no-hitter he made it a perfect game. And Sandy Koufax, whose name will always remind you of strikeouts, did it with a flurry. He struck out the last six consecutive batters. So when he wrote his name in capital letters in the record books, that "K" stands out even more than the O-U-F-A-X.

Miller was hired by the Kings in 1973 and has been their play-by-play announcer since. He has performed voice over and on-camera work for television shows and movies in scenes which included a hockey announcer. Among his credits are an episode of Cheers and the films Rollerball, Miracle on Ice, and The Mighty Ducks. Nationally, he has worked for ESPN and FOX. He also called some games for FX during the 1996 World Cup of Hockey.

Holy shit, are all Los Angeles announcers Godly or some shit?

I'm from Boston, and I will agree, all Los Angeles announcers are old.

Bob Miller

Chick...

Vin...

Yeah, LA wins, I guess

LA has been very lucky over the years to have local sports ply-by-play men who could make watching paint dry interesting. Even Ralph Lawler for the Clippers isn't bad (especially after Bill Walton left as his color man). I'm stuck in SoCal and hate every team here, but there's no doubt that LA's local guys overall beat almost every other multi-sport city.

If FOX doesn't have Vin Scully introduce the Dodger lineup in one of these games I will RAGE

LA also had one of the best sports newsmen by the name of Stu Nahan. You know him better as the boxing commentator from the Rocky movies are even more by the dude with the "nice jacket" from Spicoli's dream in Fast Times.

Have you forgotten about the incredible and indelible, often imitated, but never duplicated, slam, bam, thank you ma'am announcing of Walt Frazier.

Yep. It's just too bad that Stu wasn't able to beat more sense into Keith Olbermann while he was the weekend/fill-in guy at KTLA. Olbermann on Channel 5 made me RAAAAAAAGE.

I assume you're from the bay, so it surprises me to hear you say vin's better than kruk and kuip. I'm stuck in NorCal and hate every team here, but watching Dodgers/Giants is a treat with them in the booth.

Nothin like a ktla scully cast though...

I have lived in NorCal at times (Sonoma County & Sacramento) but don't consider myself to be from there (I've lived all over the US). I'm a bit older than most /sp/artans, so my SF Giants fav goes more to the now-retired Hank Greenwald than the crew they have today...which isn't a bad bunch by any means. Vinnie is just special.

Hats off to the Bay Area for Joe Starkey, too, and not just for "The band is out on the field!"

Gene Deckerhoff for the Bucs/Seminoles is fucking epic. One of the best, if not the best, NFL radio play-by-play announcer.
>> Anonymous
>>402695
If I'm thinking of the right guy, I've heard him do Seminoles games and he is very good but a bit of an overt homer. Regardless, that is one of the things that made Miller, Hearn, and Scully so good -- all homers without being overbearing about it. I always thought Chick was at his best when he would dump all night on the Lakers when they would be playing lazy ball.

The thing that makes Vin, Chick and Bob special is they all know how to call their respective sport for television AND radio (and all started in radio). All three have had years of announcing chops with "The Simulcast". Chick Hearn's playcalling was piped in on both radio and tv up until he called his last game. I haven't watched one Lakers game since his death. I've lost all interest because the "sound of the game" is no longer there.

Vin has unfortunately been relegated to radio only lately and that is a fucking travesty because Buck and McCarver can't run one half circle around a legendary announcer like Vinnie.

I'd say the same is true for Bob Miller but the Kings are so traditionally horrible that only super Kings fans like myself rage about it knowing the majority of people around here don't fucking care. Nick Nixon on the Kings Radio Network isn't horrible either so it balances out.

Today's sportscasters only focus on one medium (television) and as such have no love for painting the game with words. It's lazy journalism.

I like the Red Sox announcers. I think any team announcer is going to be better than the faggotry we're subjected to during the playoffs.
