NL v. AL CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
The designated hitter is a fucking travesty.

It removes almost all of the strategy out of the game. It allows non-athletes to sit on their fat asses the entire game except for a few 3-minute at-bats. The hitting records from the true greats are undermined by the fact that it allows washed-up assholes to extend their careers 4 or 5 more years.

If you like the DH, you should fucking kill yourself.

Hey retard, All Star game is a joke, plain and simple. It's not about the best players form both leagues facing off, it's a popularity contest. Why is Jason Varitek playing? He's god awful as a hitter, and about as good as any run of the mill catcher.

The biggest problem is that this game MATTERS when it comes to the World Series. That is an absolute travesty. Someone should shoot Bud Selig for this idea. A tie is better off than having people's favorite players decide which home team has the advantage.

So whatever, enjoy your shitty All Star game, it means nothing to real fans, because we know it's not real baseball. Real baseball has strategy, and the All Star game is about pleasing the dumb fans that only turn out for 1 game a season.

MLB needs to get it's fucking priorities straight.

Think back to Little League or whatever they call it where you grew up. Even all the way up through high school.

I bet you don't want instant replay either in baseball. I for one welcome the day when Umpires are fucking robots and we get the right call 100% of the time. If the pitcher has to bat (and most pitchers aren't really good at it), then you have to weigh your need for additional offense against the pitcher's pitching ability when his turn comes around.

In the AL, all you have to do is toss some guy out to the mound until his arm falls off, then replace him, and lather rinse repeat for a whole season.

"Everyone in the world disagrees with me, including some managers, but I think managing in the American League is much more difficult for that very reason (having the designated hitter). In the National League, my situation is dictated for me. If I'm behind in the game, I've got to pinch hit. I've got to take my pitcher out. In the American League, you have to zero in. You have to know exactly when to take them out of there. In the National League, that's done for you." - Jim Leyland

A DH is not a ballplayer, neither is a pitcher who does not hit. Every player plays defense AND offense. That's baseball. The argument about Steve Young playing D is stupid and irrelevant.

As for the strategy thing, a manager has to worry about his bench AND his bullpen. They're linked in the NL, as opposed to separate entities in the AL. This makes the game more complex. God forbid we have an AL manager think about 2 things at once.

Early in the game, they can do this magical little thing called a "sacrifice bunt" some of the time.

And later in the game, you can start yanking for pinch hitters.

Just because the pitcher isn't an offensive force doesn't mean the last spot in the lineup (or the #8 spot in Tony-Motherfucking-LaRussa's case) is always a free pass to the other team.
>> Anonymous
>>212417

2004: 39
2005: 93

2007: 49
2008 (so far): 115

The DH is primarily for old NL power hitters. AL fans since the 70s don't know anything other than shitty station to station baseball. The Angles are the only worthy AL team, they play baseball as it should be played. They hit and run, steal, try to throw everyone out. They don't get their leadoff guys on and wait around for home runs. They play like a good NL team.

If you play on the field, you bat. If you sit on the bench, you sit on the bench. There is no use for a bench in the AL, since pinch hitters are never used. They stack offense because apparently those mouth breathing AL fans like 20-15 games where pitchers serve only as home run fodder.

They don't get worse at hitting, everyone else just gets better around them. Sure they were great hitting 60-70mph fastballs with no movement. Suddenly they are up agaisnt curveballs that drop 12 inches and are faster then what they saw when they were "great" hitters.

FTR, for the DH. No one wants to see 99% of the pitchers get up, and give the other team a free out. If you want to bring up Ownings and Zambrano, well then you can have them hit. Remember, the DH can be anyone, INCLUDING, the pitcher. Sport evolves, get with the times.

There is a reason that the NFL doesn't where leather helmets. There is a reason that the 3 point shot exists. There is a reason that the AL uses a designated hitter.
Apparently the NL still hasn't gotten the memo.

no DH changes the game completely, especially in the later innings.
