Self Defence Anonymous
heya /sp/ first time here.

Which martial art do you consider the most realistic in terms of self defence?

I love wushu and all that showy shit but to be honest, I don't think it's effective for everyday use. In that I mean if you get jumped by a bunch of chavs or something.

From my views, I think either boxing or kickboxing would really be of any use with a bit of JiuJutsu mixed in.

Take into account adrenalin and fear if you run into trouble, kungfu requires alot of skill and technique, alot which probably be hard to remember if you;re in trouble.

Also with boxing, actual contact sparring would be a great experience and boost in getting over the shock of pain, etc.

Don't get me wrong, I love kungfu, I love seeing Jet Li and Tony Jaa films but I also love Hajime no ippo.

Apart from a bit of Jiujutsu, all I do is punch a punchbag to strengthen my punches and kicks.

What Jet Li and Tony Jaa do in MOVIES isnt necessarily a representation of how a Kungfu / Muay Thai fighter fight IRL.
Boxing/Thaiboxing coupled with Judo/Wrestling. You dont ever want to be on the concrete, there could be glass and aids needles and what not down there, also your opponents friends will kick your fucking skull in.

hmm kicks are 3 times stronger than punches, but can they be trained to be faster too?

The other thing is that balance and being on your feet is the utmost important things to consider when being jumped.

So far no one given advice for knife situations (;_;)

Self Defense is NOT a sport, you petty faggot. Man up, take your ass to the gym... or train in your favorite Running-waza.

Who're you referring to?

Im the OP and I know self defence is not a sport, hence why I started this thread. I also go to the gym. But I want to see some views on what ppl think are suitable martial arts for self defence. Agreed it may not be ideal, but something is definately better than nothing. If you're not referring to me then pardon me.
