Will the spread offense ever become popular (or at least feasible) in the NFL, and if so, what QB will pioneer it?

Yes. It will become popular in 2007. Tom Brady will pioneer it.

no you idiot. what a stupid question. the only reason the spread offense works is because most colleges teams don't have the defensive athletes to defend it. if anyone tried this in the nfl they'd get murdered regularly.

Not just that, but with the salary cap, no one team will get nearly as much depth at WR to run it effectively. Arizona is close, but their quarterback isn't a threat to run for obvious reasons.

There are spread elements in the NFL right now, but they tend to fall flat without a running game, while looking showy vs. terrible teams. (See: Saints, Patriots, Cardinals...)

Tell that to Pittsburgh.

Forget the spread, I'd like to see a team try the HUNH in the NFL.

Pat White will have to be converted to a wideout in the NFL, or he simply will not succeed.

You're only half right.

Pittsburgh has been using a spread offense since Cowher retired and Tomlin promoted Arians. Last season, it worked wondefully and Big Ben put up nice numbers.

This year, not so much. But that has a lot to do with Roethlisberger's decision making isn't nearly as efficient as it was last season. I don't think many realize how dangerous the Steeler's offense could be if Big Ben would just run forward when he sees everyone covered.
