Leave the batting title to me.

Currently batting .415 what like 50 games into the season hmmm let us do the math.
171 AB 71 hits so far.
he averages like 560 AB a season when healthy.
So 389 AB remaining. So he would only need 153 hits out of his remaining AB. this would give him 224 hits and exactly .400 avg.

Another Bravesfag here. I will admit that I am actually surprised that Larry Wayne is kicking as much ass as he is so far. I don't think he will be able to maintain this pace throughout the rest of the season, cuz he will get injured at some point. But still, it would put him in some seriously HOF contention if he can keep the .400 pace up.

But honestly I'd rather see my Bravos get back to the post season. Can't have fucking Florida winning the division, goddamnit.

Already a first ballot'r
>> Anonymous
>>114200

2,300 hits, 415 homers, 1,400 RBI, .300 BA

that's roughly where he'll be at after 2008. i wouldn't say he's already a first ballot guy. he's 36, so at least he's got some years left to get those numbers up. but he's got time.

So was Ken Caminiti.

Nonetheless, his states compared to the greatest 3rd baseman of all time:

2234 Hits 1506 runs 548 HR 1595 RBIs

pretty damn close...
>> BravesFag62
>>114295

Ken Caminiti was on steroids. End of discussion.

(Not that I don't think his stats aren't amazing, he was a great player, even if he did only play for us for a year or so, but fuck if the HoF guys aren't on a fucking witchhunt. If Rose can't get in for gambling, Cams can't get in for steroids)

never said i don't think he's hall of fame material, i said i don't think he's necessarily first ballot

the debate is about whether he's ALREADY first ballot material

According to the HOF metrics used over at BBRef, Chipper is weak on black-ink, just a bit low on gray-ink, but easily into the hall based on Standards and Monitor tests.

Basically, he rarely is the #1 guy in the league (black ink), but is almost always very good(gray ink), has maintained his value over a very long period of time (that's the standards test), and has excellent counting stats (that's the monitor test).

Add in the human element, and you're looking at a guy that people have seen as consistantly good with spurts of great and viola, you got a 1st ballot HoF

I'm probably wrong, but I'm a homer. Sorry.

>>114372
I think that, given his production right now, he's unlikely to fall totally off the cliff, so that by the time he retires he'll probably have an excellent shot at 1st ballot.

If he were to retire tomorrow, though? No. Not quite enough peak excellence (the old "it's not the Hall of Very Good" argument).
