Are the United States and Canada pretty much the only places where professional sports teams move from one city to another (not counting just going to a new stadium in the suburbs or anything like that)? The only even remotely similar thing I know of outside of North America is some teams merging in Aussie Rules football.

"Franchises" in sport => fail.

That said, it occasionally happens elsewhere. Only one i knew of was the Wimbledon F.C relocation and name change to Milton Keynes Dons a few years ago, but Wikipedia (inb4 not a source) has some more:

BRING RELEGATION TO AMERICAN COLLEGE SPORTS

OP here who now feels stupid (and is sucking cocks) for thinking that team relocations would only be on each league's Wiki entry.

That is a pretty amazing list to see all those teams that have moved in only two countries and then the relative handful for the rest of the world. It must be nice to always know that your team is pretty much always going to be there unlike America where even most big-time teams will try to move (or at least threaten to do so) at the drop of a hat.

Good idea in theory, but imagine the shitstorm if, for example, Notre Dame got relegated in football for last year's season of fail and Appalachian State got to take Duke's place in the ACC.

The whole world would rejoice.

Fuck them...if they suck, they should get relegated.

That's the American way, compete or die.
