I have never cared who won this shit.

Shorten your frigging season.

God damn.
>> Anonymous
PROTIP: MLB season is shorter than the NHL, NBA, or any domestic football (diveball version) leagues.
>> Anonymous
>>441233
NFL - Regular season: 5 Months
Games played - 16

NBA - Regular season: 6 Months
Games played - 82

NHL - Regular season: 7 Months
Games played - 82

MLB - Regular season: 7 Months
Games played - 162

Ok, if not a shorter season, play less fucking games. There's no jusifiable reason to play 162 games.

I'm all for a longer NFL season, not due to the arrests thing though.

No argument as to how long the season is, I never really cared about Baseball enough to know more then 'it exists.' Its NFL and NHL season now, and that is the best time of year for me.
>> Anonymous
Baseball should be over before College Football starts. It's the only way to have full attention for their crappy postseason.
>> St.Feraligatr !VJOf9vVc0E
>>441215
It allows for the true cream of the crop to make the postseason. You wouldn't want any flukes!

Plus it's better than football and their: "Okay guys, everyone sucks the same this year, let's have fun!"

wilbon was on my local radio today saying that with the new schedule structure next year - the season might not end till Nov 15

One month cut off each way would make sense. That would make your regular season about 100 games and you would have great weather all season vs snowstorms/cold weather in April and September

cumulative attendance increased only marginally compared to football

and overall revenue and team values are monumentally lower than football.

do you consider hockey dying?
>> Anonymous
>>441377
IMHO dying means losing ground compared to the competition. So I look at say General Motors.

They have had steady gradual growth by the numbers - but their market share is the lowest in history. Therefore they are dying. The same goes for baseball.

They are getting BLOWN AWAY by their competition. The former "national pastime" is now the "national i guess we can go if the tix are cheap/free and i don't have shit to do because i already beat Fallout 3 and my term paper isn't due for another week besides i kinda wanna get drunk and yell time"
>> Anonymous
>>441408
Yes there is something wrong.

Whats wrong is that too many people are entertained by people running into each other for hours.

we can all agree that football is a novelty, you watch a few hours of action than wait an ENTIRE FUCKING WEEK to watch your favorite team again. you get to watch your favorite team 16 days out of an entire year, then its already over.

football is like the carnival, you enjoy it for two seconds, then its already gone. but beause its all ESPN talks about and shoves down your throat 24/7, people think its the best sport. its a joke.
>> Anonymous
>>441644

The funny thing is you really believe that. You're just a pathetic, deluded baseball fan holding on to the past.

Let me ask you this: What is ESPN's motivation in all of this? Money, of course. Why the FUCK would they do anything other than give the people what they want? Why would they have ANY motivation than to air what sells?

You're not very bright, are you?
>> Anonymous
Baseball is the only game where the playoff teams truly ARE the BEST teams. When you play 162 games, there are no lucky teams, there is no bullshit. Everything balances out, and only the best teams make the dance. I love me some NFL action, but 16 games means that some teams will ride good luck into the playoffs, it happens every year.
>> Anonymous
>>441661
>>441661
Yeah, because inferior Wild Card teams who get hot at the end of a season never make the playoffs.
>> Anonymous
>>441661

You act as if this is a surprise to teams. Either they get their overpaid asses in gear from word go or they sit at home come playoff time. This isn't "hey guys we just wasted half the season but it's OK! We'll just hustle during the second half to make the playoffs!"

See: Yankees the past few years save for this one.

In conclusion: Baseball is a boring, old sport with way....WAAAAYYYY too many games being played during the season. ESPN "shoves football down out throats" only because THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE WANT. Baseball is dying a slow death. Check the ratings. People don't give a shit anymore.
>> Anonymous
>>441661
I agree that mlb's playoff system separates the wheat from the chaff but still the numbers don't lie. Matched up against other growth rates and revenue from the other 3 major sports, it's on its deathbead
>> Anonymous
>>441661
Exactly. See last year. The Giants shouldn't have made it, but they did, and then they got lucky and beat the REAL best team.

You see this is what we call BULLSHIT. MLB attendance and television ratings have skyrocketed since the last strike back in 96. Major League Baseball is now the second most popular sport in America, surpassing even Basketball last year. I guess you meant that Hockey is a major sport doing better than baseball. You would be incorrect. Hockey gets almost no viewers, even during the Stanley Cup Finals, and much sparser attendance.

For all you ADD faggots in this thread who can't sit still for two hours without seeing somebody being slammed to the ground: YOU'RE DELUSIONAL. Baseball is still a major sport in America, and still far bigger than hockey. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean shit. Get over it.

wrong. i say you suck espn's cock because you act as if espn somehow gives sports fans what they want; no, they give one niche group of people what they want. espn is the premier sports network, it should be their duty to promote ALL sports, not just one or two sports/athletes.

if news networks only covered the most popular politician, that wouldnt mean they were giving america the coverage they want; it would mean they gave that politicians supporters what they want

and what about the time in between the 1981 strike and 1994?

This isn't politics. You need to come to grips with the fact that ESPN would be retarded to do anything other than cover what people want. You seem to think that people like football because of ESPN. I hope you realize that makes exactly ZERO sense. ESPN has no motivation other than to please advertisers. They know that more people watch (read: ratings) when they cover football.

Football is America's sport now. It's the sport we watch en masse. This isn't rocket science.
>> Anonymous
>>441733

promoting lesser sports and athletes is not retarded. it helps ALL sports long-term.

ESPN is the reason that every year people say "NOBODY CARES ABOUT HOCKEY" "NOBODY CARES ABOUT BASKETBALL" and "NOBODY CARES ABOUT BASEBALL"

if things stay the way they are, eventually the NFL will be the only major sport. i prefer diversity in sports.
