Really, they need a 18-1; that made the Patsfags shut the fuck up REAL quick.
Anyone else hoping for Boston to now be on the wrong side of an 0-3 in the playoffs?

Note: I assume it is not against the Yankees, for Yankeefags are the ONLY thing worse than Sawksfags.

Soxsfag here. Tampa Bay will win the AL East, and will at least make the ALCS. If I had to guess, the ALCS will be Rays v Angels.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
>>265830

The AL East is the only division with quality teams top to bottom. 4 teams in it are above .500 and the Orioles (who have a winning record in non-divisional play) are only 3 games under it with a pitching staff full of nobodies and offensive "juggernauts" like Aubrey Huff and Luke Scott.

red sox have 3 legitimate aces, a lot more than most teams can say (becket, dice, lester) all 3 have dominant stuff and they are the best 1-2-3 in the american league, the only one who has been a little inconsistent is becket, but 2 factors play into that, 1 is that his W-L is a little skewed due to the fact most of his losses or ND were in close games where bsox offense was poor, and 2 is that he didn't start the season on time and was injured during the first part of the season, and statistically and historically that has had a significant impact on starting pitching especially with the red sox extremely long and exhausting road schedule at the start of the year, (japan to oakland to canada etc etc.) btw yes im a soxfag, no im not butthurt, and this is the only excuses i will make for the sox, they are obviously underachieving im not stupid enough to not see this, just pointing out that becket is still an ace pitcher and just happens to have stats that don't reveal the picture. if the sox make the postseason the questions being asked now won't be asked again. promise that much at least.

bumping this cause Halladay deserves the Cy Young
>> Anonymous
>>266168

Not if his team can't finish in the top half of the division. Mussina will get more votes than him. Cliff Lee, barring some horrible injury is going to win it. I see 21+ wins in his future.
>> Anonymous
>>266097
I'd take Halladay, Burnett and Marcum over those Soxfags any day.
Much better 1-2-3

barring some epic collapse, cliff lee is getting the cy young, halladay will be 2nd

cliff lee has WINS but even ignoring that he's having a better season
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
ERA+ (lgERA/ERA, where lgERA is the calculated ERA of a league-average pitcher that has pitched in the same exact combinations of ballparks as the subject pitcher) numbers of (in my opinion) the top 10 AL Cy Young contenders:

Roy Halladay: 159
Mike Mussina: 127
Scott Kazmir: 132
Daisuke Matsuzaka: 163
Cliff Lee: 179
John Danks: 143
Justin Duchscherer: 152
Ervin Santana: 122
Joe Saunders: 139
Felix Hernandez: 134

Other notables:

Shaun Marcum: 123
Jeremy Guthrie: 136
Jon Lester: 137
Armando Galarraga: 138

Looks like Lee has it right now.
>> Anonymous
So /sp/, who's gonna win NL and AL Cy Young?
>> Anonymous
>>266989

Webb will win the Cy Young despite Haren and C.C. pitching better than him. And Lee with the Indians will win the AL Cy Young despite Moose pitching better than him. The biggest problem is that Baseball Writers will look at Web's win total and just ignore everything else, like ERA, WHIP, or any other meanful stat because Wins are guady and the more wins you have the more it means you're a good pitcher. Somehow.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
     File :-(, x)
>>266989

Lee will win it in the AL, albeit for the wrong reasons. Not that such will matter, because he deserves it anyway.

Brandon Webb will win it in the NL, also for the wrong reasons, but, unlike Lee, it WILL matter because he doesn't deserve it the most (at least not right now). Image related.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
>>267004

Ooh, forgot about Sabathia (And HArden, for that matter).

I think he'll be hurt by not being in the NL for long enough, and his year-long numbers don't merit it over the top 5 or 6 NL guys (although Harden's certainly do). He could win it anyway though, and it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he did.
>> Anonymous
>>267019

Yeah, but it should be the best pitcher in the league. If you had a one game playoff, who would you rather face, C.C. or Webb?
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
>>267053

Given Sabathia's history of failure in crunch situations (see: 2007 playoffs), I'd take Webb.
