So let me get this straight. All Penguins fans are bandwagon fags while all Red Wings fans are all hardcore old-school hockey fans.

Is this correct? Because I want to start rooting for a team that has a great fanbase.
>> Mattel Electronics Presents B-17 Bomber !!F9WdIcHuL95
Yes.

PROTIP: Pittsburgh almost lost their team. Twice.

I'm a bit of a newfag both to hockey and this board, but logic would say that the Red Wings is an ancient organization, so they probably have lots of people who are fans purely because love of the Wings has been in their family, where so far as I know, the Penguins are a far younger team, without nearly as much popularity.

Me, I'm of the former. I even got dragged to that stupid "Red Wings Day" thing when I was like...8 or 9, after they won the cup twice in a row. I just was channel surfing yesterday night and found the game to be exceptionally intense.
>> Mattel Electronics Presents B-17 Bomber !!F9WdIcHuL95
Very intense game, did biggest ratings in 6 years.

Also the Pens have been showed down the throat, Cleveland Cavaliers style. Count how many times the words Sidney Crosby are counted on the NBC telecast.

As a Tigerfag, It's my general observation that Detroit doesn't give a shit about teams unless they're good.

However, in all fairness, I was born in 86, so I obviously have no referance to the Red Wings fanbase during their awful years.

The Red Wings were one of the Original Six NHL teams, IIRC, along with the Canadiens, Maple Leaves, Black Hawks, NY Rangers, and the Bruins. All six have had hardcore contingents over the years, even though the only REALLY successful teams in regards to championships and Cups has been Detroit.

That being said, they are still in Detroit, and no one really LIKES Detroit outside of Michigan, so I am obliged to hate them.

This is true. Lol empty seats in the conference finals, because they lost early the last few years.

Good luck finding that team whose fans support it more when times are bad.

The farthest I've ever heard of the Red Wings thinking moving from Detroit since 1926 was half an hour up I-75.

yeah it's not like the canadiens have won 24 championships or anything

Yeah, who the fuck would be crazy enough to think something like that? I mean, It's not like the Habs are second only to the Yankees in championships won by a North American team.

Hey, I live in Michigan and I hate Detroit as a city. I just like the Wings. Hate Baseball and Football, so the Tigers and Lions can go fellate each other for all I care. Pistons are okay, their mascot is a horse who'll kick your face in and not give a shit.

Why does every discussion about the Red Wings lead directly back to the Yankees?
>> Anonymous
>>133346
Because both teams deserve to die in a fire.

And technically, the Yankees segue was when we were talking about the Habs.
>> Anonymous
>>133346

because their the Yankees of Hockey.

Although someone could make that case about the Rangers too.
>> Anonymous
>>133353
No, you have to actually be good before you're allowed to be compared to the Yankees, and the Rags have won exactly one more Stanley Cup than I have in the expansion era.

>>133359

Well today's Yankees more like.

They shell out millions of dollars for all-star players only get eliminated in the 1st or 2nd round of the playoffs.

Cheer for the Habs. Greatest fans in sports.

Maple Leafs, they have the best fanbase in the NHL for such a terrible team, you should join them.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>133285

That would be incorrect.

Pittsburgh had one of the NHL's original teams (Pittsburgh Pirates) but lost it when the NHL contracted due to the Great Depression and World War II. The six-teams remaining(the so-called original six) were owned by a bunch of conservative faggots that refused to expand the league. When you hear of teams like the habs bragging about their championships, it's from an era with SIX FUCKING TEAMS. Not very impressive at all.

The league was expanded to double it's size(12 teams) in 1967 and this allowed cities with a huge hockey fanbase (Philly and Pittsburgh) to finally get a team. Coincidently this was the LAST YEAR that the Maple leafs had a championship. What a fucking failure of a franchise.

The Pens are a great team and will be great for a long time. If you are new to hockey they would be a good team to root for.

lol noob they're not the Rangers of hockey lol lol lol

The Maple Leafs have by far the most loyal fanbase. People in Toronto LOVE the sport and their fans. Their tickets are pretty hard to book.

They haven't been doing well for like 10 years, but things might change in the new season. If you want a hockey team with a loyal fanbase its them.

It doesn't make them a good team however.

The L.A Kings are a team to look out for. They fuskered up this season, but they are a relatively young team.

The Habs won many more championships even after '67. 10 more I believe, when Pitt only won 2, and could've won many more with their powerhouse team but failed miserably.

The best fanbase around is the Leafs, motherfuckers, hands down.

Why the fuck do you think that the ACC is filled up with such a shitty team day in and day out? Admittedly most of them start to leave if their down 1-0 but the Leafs make a lot of money off shit and their unloyal fans (if you could call them that) keep coming back.

Suck my Belak--

Oh wait.

Root for the Flyers then. They have a crazy fan base and they haven't won anything in so long, no one can really call you a band wagon fan.
