lacrosse is awesome, you're all faggots
>> Anonymous
It's alright to play, I guess, if you like getting the shit slapped out of you with metal bats.

But watching it is awful. It is not a good spectator sport.
>> Anonymous
Slapping at each other with sticks is one of the sissiest things I've ever seen.

They wear helmets and pads. Why aren't they allowed to hit each other?
>> Anonymous
>>115441
You can hit people, but you can't hit them from a certain direction, I think. But yes, moar hitting (and fights should be okay like in hockey)
>> Anonymous
>>115441
Because unlike hockey the ball doesn't travel real well once the player controlling it has been knocked on his ass

And unlike football, the ball needs to be in constant motion

So you can't tackle a guy and then pry the ball out from his stick/under him with your hands, but you CAN beat him with your stick until balls start popping out.

that's what half of /b/ faps to every night

Hitting =/= tackling

And, if the reason there is no hitting is because the ball won't move if a player doesn't possess it, how does trying to knock it loose with a stick any better?

Face it: lacrosse is for pussies.

I'm not arguing for lacrosse, fool, I'm>>115430

But smacking someone's arms or stick is so they drop the ball. Tackle somebody or trip them/knock them down, and some of the time the ball is still going to be in the stick. What do you do then? Stop play? Let the guy up?

In hockey, there's no pocket for the ball on the stick, so play usually continues on. And in football, that's the end of a down. But neither is the case for lacrosse, so they don't allow it.

>>115499

If it can be knocked loose with a stick, it'll be knocked loose with a bodycheck. If it takes so much skill just to cradle the ball, there wouldn't be a problem. Players can trip and fall now all by themselves. It's not like the situation you describe is impossible as the rules stand.

And no one has said anything about tackling but you, numbnuts.

>>115517
Well then tell us all why lacrosse doesn't allow body checks smarty pants

I've seen lacrosse players hit the ground still cradling the ball, and it pretty much stops play, so that's the best reason I can think of

I'm ready for you to blow my mind
>> Anonymous
what are you guys talking about? i've seen some brutal hits in lacrosse.

>>115547lacrosse doesn't allow body checks

who said that?
>> Anonymous
>>115547

Because the sissies that play lacrosse wouldn't play if there was a chance they'd get roughed up every time they touched the ball. Passes would come out much more quickly and much more sloppy. Lacrosse as it's played now is predominately about possession. Open-field hitting threatens this.

Thusly, lacrosse is for pussies.

Read the thread,>>115441did and>>115447

And I've never seen two players just high/low demolish a guy and send him cartwheeling to the ground

Lacrosse does allow body checks. Who the fuck said that it doesn't? Not from behind, but yes, there are open field hits.

Excuse JewTube faggotry, better if you turn off your sound, but still, some brutal hits.

I doubt the rules of any sport are what they are because pussies play or don't play them

Rather I think the rules are designed to maintain exciting and usually constant play, within the bounds of the sport
>> Anonymous
No hitting? The hell are you all smoking? Lacrosse allows hitting. More focus is put on the whole slashing people with sticks, but hitting is how you're supposed to play the game.
>> Anonymous
i've gotten hit pretty bad in lacrosse. my jaw has been subluxated, my shoulder has been dislocated, and i got a mild concussion (that was actually pretty cool. everything was green for an hour or so, like i was wearing green sunglasses.)
>> Anonymous
>>115627

Slapping each other with sticks while you pass the ball from behind the net to the side of the net and back again is not exciting.

It's soccer with a gimmick.
>> Anonymous
>>115618
That's some good shit. I've never seen that much in the lacrosse games I've seen on ESPN2.

Although I note that in a couple of those highlights, I see refs flying in with whistles in their mouths, leading me to conclude some of what was portrayed wasn't strictly legal
>> Anonymous
>>115637
I never said it was exciting. In fact I said it was the opposite.

I am just trying to imagine why it is like that, without assuming all lacrosse players are total pussies
>> Anonymous
>>115647
it's like that because there's so much open space on the field. each half of the field (110 x 60 yards total) can have a maximum of six offensive players and six defensive players (plus the goalie). it's like playing basketball on a football field. you either have to catch a guy unaware to hit him good, or get someone in a crowd.
>> Anonymous
>>115638
Hmm...fair enough.

I see one, where there are a bunch of blueshirts beating up on a guy in yellow...the ref runs in there because a defenseman takes a full baseball swing at his hips.

That one at the end the ref runs in because the kid is knocked the fuck out. That happens in a few others (like the indoor one)

There are a few other that might be called high hits or somethin but I see just as many clips where the ref just stands there and watches it.

Hit him on a buddy pass or take a run at him when the ball (and his head) is down.

It's kind of like hockey in that sense. The best hits are when the target is not aware of it coming.
>> Anonymous
also, there are restrictions on when and how you can hit someone:

-you cannot hit someone (or even push hard enough to make them lose their balance) from behind. side is okay.
-you can only hit the ball carrier.
-if the ball is loose, you can hit anyone within ten yards. this is where many big hits come.
-you can't leave your feet to make a hit (same with hockey).
-you can't lead with your head.

in terms of stick checking:

-you cannot "swing wildly." this is totally under the discretion of the referee.
-your stick cannot every touch their helmet or neck. automatic penalty, even if clearly accidental or very light.

Lacrosse fights are allowed. Similar to hockey fights. Kinda.
