A decent football league when the NFL and college ball is over, wouldn't be a bad thing. Unfortunately the XFL was pure shit.

The hits weren't any harder. They had some rules to make it more "exciting" like making a punt a live ball after 20 yards or something. The players were of a caliber maybe a little better than Arena League, and lower than the Canadian League.
>> Anonymous
>>451244
Oh, and to continue, it was the marketing that made it seem so EXTREME. I think they really underestimated what the appeal of football is to people.

what they should have done was line the players up on OPPOSITE ends of the field and have them run to the ball in the middle. Them being in a footrace wasn't that EXTREEEEME

It could have worked if they hadn't been on NBC and shit. That was just stupid. UPN? Sure, better than the nigger shows, but primetime on NBC or whatever on a Saturday? Bound to fail.
>> Anonymous
Needed more. I like the shit they did for a "kickoff". THAT WAS IT!
>> Anonymous
XFL was the shit. It was kind of cool, but kind of gay too. Hehateme obviously was dumber than the pads on his shoulders.

>No play on artificial turf or in domes.
I like playing games outdoors (late season weather in cold cities is a great part of the game- nothing is worse than the Vikings, Lions, and other cold weather cities playing in 68 degree weather in December.) Couldn't care less about the surface.

>20 yard scramble for the ball to determine possession instead of a coin flip.
Fucking stupid. There is no advantage in receiving the opening kickoff if you get it back in the second half. The coin flip only matters in sudden death overtime- there is no reason to risk an injury just so you get the ball first.

>No PATs; all extra points are regular plays from scrimmage at the goal line.
I like the two point conversion; this makes that tactic useless. PATs are almost always good...almost. (Hi John Carney.)

>No sudden death; OT is like NCAA and CFL.
Mixed feelings about this. The NFL game gives too much advantage to the team that wins the toss and field position, and I admit that NCAA games are exciting when they get to OT, but it feels somewhat forced. I guess I will give them this one.

>Allow bump and run until the QB throws
I know this makes it EXTREME but it also makes passing much more difficult (and games more boring.)

>Forward motion
Don't care. I'm not sure how much it really helps anyway.

>No fair catch/live punts
They still had a fucking 5 yard halo, so this was no more EXTREME than the NCAA. Punting is about field position, and while it's sort of boring, it makes the strategy of the game much more compelling.

>Players date cheerleaders
ZOMG SCANDALOUS

>Locker room cameras for cheerleaders
There's no fucking nudity, who cares. If I want to fap, I go to /hc/ or /d/, I don't watch football.

I guess with the popularity of the WWF (WWE?) at that time, along with the X Games being a somewhat new thing, they thought that is what people wanted out of a league. I don't watch American football because I'm a knuckle-dragging Neanderthal who thinks HURRR I WANT TO SEE TACKLES THAT ARE HARD. The NFL game is interesting because it has the best players in the world, and a good balance of rules to make offense and defense necessary.

really i prefer the old secondary contact rules before they fucked it up and made it so you can't even touch the guy past 5 yards.
>> Anonymous
>>451381
I actually liked this cause while the payoff wasn't great, there was a strat to it. You could send the speedster and hope he gets there first, you could send the linebacker and try to get the best of both worlds, or you could send the 400lb lineman and just have him maul the other guy and get the ball when the opponent is on the ground.

Blame the Pats and Tony Dungy for that. The Pats won 2 superbowls becuase the rule was poorly worded and not inforced. They broke Issac Bruces arm in the first quarter of a superbowl. And Dungy, with his position in the league at the time kept pushing very hard to get the rule inforced because the Pats "bump" and run style crushed his (and all) timing offenses.
