I'm going to be playing Varsity high school football next year in my senior year. Last year I was in JV and my coach picked my own position and I was left with this shitty position I would never even enjoy at all: I was a Left Tackle player. It sucked and I had no technique, but I soon tried out Defensive End, and I was pretty damn good. So I ultimately switched positions for next year.

Anyways, has anyone played, or even currently playing any football that could give me some tips on my new position next year?

OP here. I'm doing Shot Putt and Discus Throw, A lot of technique is involved with all of it. Our first track & field meet is in 3 days..

Nike cleats are badass. I wore Reebok up until my sophomore year, then went to Nike. It was like night and day. The Nike cleats are so much better it's hard to describe.

Yes! I know! We got a pair of Nike cleats from last year on JV that weren't even suppose to come out yet and we got ours a month before it hit the shelves. (Our coach told us that the cleats were around 100 dollars, and we got them a whole lot cheaper since we got sponsored by Nike.)

They were so comfortable, hell--they were more comfortable than my school shoes even.

There's even Defensive End gloves? Wow, I need to look some up..

Also, center seems to be also a new interest.. I've never had experience so I don't want to take a chance to a new position on my Varsity team.

Defense is great ain't it?

Wierd, I can squat almost as much as I can deadlift.
As for bench, I can do 2 45's on each side (225 lbs) for about 4-5 reps. Try doing that next time you do chest. Thats what they test at the NFL Combine, except they can throw it up for around 30.

Defense = See ball. Get ball

speed > size

when in doubt power out.

that last ones not really football related, but, well you asked for advice...

There's specialised gloves for most positions, and if there aren't, there's an extremely close match. Example: CB/FS/SS just use WR gloves, etc.

Well our coach didn't do so much zone coverage with the linebacker corps, so we pretty much became hit machines. We lived for the run and the occasional quick slants.

Get Cutters. I find that they usually have the best gloves.

Middle Linebacker here.
Attack the ball always, don't listen to your coaches about techniques, just get to the ball, if your coach seems like the whole play is based on someone else getting the tackle fuck that shit.
I got the Reggie Bush cleats, comfortable as hell.
Bench press all the time, dead-lift right after, then squats thats all ends need.

With the way our D is set up, we funnel everything up the middle right to me. Lots of tackles and killshots. Fucking awesome.

Oh god, I love slants. Especially because my team has fast, small recievers. They just die.

Aren't you worried about any pass plays?

Well, thats what we do when its a run. Outside contain is key. But we are a run-stopping D, our Pass Coverage is less than stellar.
