DALLAS COWBOYS 2008 MELTDOWN - TIMELINE

1. After their first loss, to the Washington Redskins, Terrell Owens complains he didn't get the ball enough even though he was involved with a third of the team's offensive plays. A few weeks later the Cowboys trade a boatload of draft picks to Detroit for wide receiver Roy Williams.

2. Adam "Pacman" Jones attacks his team-mandated bodyguard in a Dallas hotel. The Cowboys, Jerry Jones in particular, cover it up. NFL commish Roger Goodell doesn’t buy it and suspends his ass indefinitely.

3. Tony Romo breaks his finger on his throwing hand in an overtime loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He threatens to play but is replaced (for at least one week) by 40 year old Brad Johnson.
4. A 34-14 loss to the Rams features three interceptions, the season-ending injury of safety Roy Williams, a vote of confidence for head coach Wade Phillips from Jerry Jones (always a kiss of death), and a front page story about the Cowboys troubles on ESPN.

Wade Phillips isn't your problem, Jerry Jones fucking up every good thing Parcells did for your team is the problem.

exactly. Jerry and Parcells worked pretty well together because Parcells wouldn't let Jerry push him around. There was friction, for sure, but that often breeds creativity and teamwork and the like.

Wade's a pushover who clearly doesn't know how to control this ridiculous collection of hyper-personalities Jerry Jones has assembled. Maybe someone with more fire could handle it, or could've told Jerry to sit back, but Wade hasn't, and look where the team is now.

Those are the exact reasons Jones hired Phillips, he WANTED a push-over so he could fuck everything up.

Those are the exact reasons Davis hired Kiffin, he WANTED a push-over so he could fuck everything up.

Good one.
Thought Kiffin was a bit of a smartass during interviews, and kind of stood up for himself. I thought he was doing a surprisingly good job, but that only strengthens the possibility of sabotage.

Pretty much, Davis hired Kiffin because he thought he could control him because he was only 31. Al Davis didn't take into account that two things would happen. That a) Kiffin would grow into the job very quickly. and b) Kiffin already knew the score and was looking to trade up the first chance he got. Lane Kiffin was the son of one of the oldest Defensive Coordinators in the league. You're telling me that Al Davis didn't think Kiffin knew how the Raiders and the NFL worked?

Wade Phillips: Barry Switzer Redux

The only question is who will play the parts of Chan Gailey and Dave Campo.
>> Anonymous
Well... Switzer minus a Super Bowl via inherited talent. Otherwise, pretty much spot-on.
