also i don't get why red sox fans act like they have any room to talk about the success or failure of a franchise. you fuck heads were the poster boys of fucking failure until just a few years ago. the yankees may suck now, which i will enjoy while it last, but the sox sucked for nearly a century.

Red Sox = New Yankees? Yeah ok. When Mariano starts River dancing in the infield and A-rod admires his Homers for 4 hours then you can say that.
>> Anonymous
>>135836
He's right, you know.
And the Red Sox are the new Yankees: Arrogant, rich, elitist, and whiny. Know thy enemy.
>> Anonymous
I wouldn't go as far to say arrogant and whiny.
>> Anonymous
>>135900
Nope, none of those apply to the Sox. If you would actually watch them, you would realize how much they enjoy playing the game.
>> Anonymous
>>135900
In case you haven't noticed, EVERY team is arrogant and whiny by default. And honestly, every team is rich. Just some teams don't draft well or don't care about winning so they have shit teams (KC and PIT come to mind). Drafting is key these days. For example: Youkilis, Pedroia, Lester, Buchholz, Ellsbury, Moss, Hansen, Delcarmen, Lowrie have all contributed at the major league level. Look at some of the other notables: Jay Bruce, pretty much the entire Tampa Bay Rays, Howie Kendrick, Alex Rios, Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, David Wright....etc. If you draft shitty players, your team will be shitty, especially if you won't spend money on some key veterans. The Sox are pretty elitist, though.
>> Anonymous
>>135986
I'd enjoy playing the game if I was taking in 20 mil a year like Manny. This could be ESPN's influence, but Red Sox Nation really does come off as elitist and arrogant to outsiders. Besides, about 4 out of 5 "Red Sox fans" hopped on after 2004.
>> Anonymous
>>136013
Every team is not rich. The Florida Marlins make less than Alex Rodriguez, and I'm sure teams like the Royals, Pirates, and Rays aren't too far ahead of him.
>> Anonymous
>>136013
The Red Sox payed $50 million to TALK to Dice-K, and another $50 mil to sign him. Who, besides the Yanks, Cubs, and maybe the Angels, could do that?
>> Anonymous
>>136037
Any team really could have paid that much. However, that was still a fucking bullshit price. I don't care if it was the second coming of Nolan Ryan, $50 million to talk to someone is absurd and a waste of money.

I know that nobody in sports has any perspective about the value of money any more, but I would just like to remind everyone that the Red Sox paid out $103 million dollars to acquire Matsuzaka. No person, let alone an entertainer, is worth that much.

But fuck it, in 5 years, someone will probably pay $120 mil for some phenom or another.

TELL ME MORE ABOUT THIS 'BASEBALL'

no shit drafting is 'key these days' dipshit. it doesn't change the fact that the non 'role players' on the red sox team were bought. manny, ortiz, beckett are all bought not to mention schilling and the other fucks that helped them win those two series.

if anything, drafting is less important now that players don't stay with the same team for their entire careers. if you're a team with a high payrole you can afford a few drafting miscues that you couldn't back when drafting, apparently, wasn't as important

hi. this isn't about the yankees anymore. they have a huge payroll and suck. the red sox have a huge payroll and win. people HATE both teams and their fans.

the fact of the matter is, most the people who hate the yankees started hating them in the 90s because they won and paid a lot for their players. this has changed and now the red sox win, and SHOCKINGLY, pay a shit load for their players. now, and SHOCKINGLY, the same people who hated the yankees now hate the red sox.

Define "bought" you fucking faggot. The Twins didn't want Ortiz anymore. Beckett was traded for, as well as Lowell. I agree, Manny and Schilling were bought. Honestly though Ortiz was a bust for the Twins and was hardly bought. More like picked out of the trash. Just because your team is owned by queers who trade and draft shit and won't supplant their mistakes by being serious contenders in the free agent market doesn't mean you need to go "BAWWWWW YOUR TEAM BUYS RINGS LOL" gtfo

Look they play good ball. Yanks have slow starts and manage to still make the playoffs. Thats news worthy. The Sox play ball good for the shit they went through. They play good ball. Thats what makes ESPN coverage. So when these teams meet up its a big deal. Good ball teams and a good rivalry. Of course your going to hear about it.

So stop bitching about it, just because the only way your team makes Sportscenter coverage is because they lost 11 straight or blew a 7 game lead in September.

again. people don't hate the sawks because they supposedly buy championships. they hate them because they win championships AND happen to have a lot of money. this is, again, in no way different than the yankee teams of the later 90s and i guarantee all of you nonbandwagon hopping sawks fans bitched about those same yankee teams.

>>136310
the yankess 'played good ball' all those years you faggots bitched and moaned about it. i can't believe you don't see the double standards.

when someone says 'the red sox are like the yankees' you guys go 'no way the yankees have a huge payroll and suck and their players don't care' like the yankees didn't exist before arod got there. if you weren't all bandwagon faggots you'd admit that the red sox of today and the yankees of the late 90s are the same

I cant say the Sox bought championships. They made good moves and built their franchise from there.

>>136324
Honestly the only reason I hated any Yankees team was because my parents and grandparents raised me to hate them. Except my grandfather on my moms side. He's a Yankee fan. In actuality though, Jeter was a great short stop, I'm glad I got to see one of the most dominant closers in Rivera, and Bernie Williams always played how the game should be played and the way the Yankees treated him at the end was a disgrace.
>> Anonymous
>>136310
what shit did the sawks have to go through? they traded away their best player a century ago and were racist assholes who's own bigotry hindered them from fielding a productive team. then after all of that they sat around and bawwwed while the yankees brought up some of the best players to ever play the game. then bill buckner fucked up and they bawwed even lounder for another decade.

big deal

nice try dipshit but i am not a yankee fan. i am a fan of the baltimore orioles actually, but i'm also a fan of baseball and can call a spade a spade.
>> Anonymous
>>136335

I agree about Bernie. He was so clutch in the late 90s dynasty, and to see the Yanks bench him was so distasteful.
>> Anonymous
>>136331
You are correct sir. The Red Sox as they have been this decade, are the exact same as the Yankees of the 90's.

The Yankees would still be good if they focused more on their pitching. They've got an aging lineup, but opt for rookie pitchers? I just don't see wtf Hank was thinking.

No offense, but he's not his father. I hate how his dad ran the team, but he was successful, and deserves to be celebrated for that. Hank on the other hand, only has his father's name. I only see him failing and asking daddy for help.

Btw, Pirates fan here. Hoping this isn't year 16 :\\

You fags can whine about not winning the series, or the playoffs. I'd love to see a team finish above .500. Haven't seen that since I was 11.

>> Anonymous
>>136341
Hey, I'm a Soxfag. And I admit they are the same. Really the big difference is the Sox have a stacked farm system that they have been building for a while. When the Yankees were winning all those years, they kind of neglected their farm system. Although now they have kind of fixed that.

Also, lol Joba 2.1 innings.
>> Anonymous
itt faggots arguing which team fails more.
>> Anonymous
>>136359
argument is as follows - the red sox of the 2000s are run in much the same way, and have experienced a similar level of success, as the yankees of the late 1990s.
>> Anonymous
>>136360
you're right there. the red sox did see what happened to the yankees once their farm system went to hell and took care to not let the same thing happen to them and it was, obviously, wise for them to do so
>> Anonymous
>The Yankees would still be good if they focused more on their pitching. They've got an aging lineup, but opt for rookie pitchers? I just don't see wtf Hank was thinking.

Yeah Hanks failing. Him and Cashman. It started with Joba. Two things shoudl've happened.
A. He becomes a starter (which is what they trained him in ST) So instead they should've gone after a 8th inning relief.
or
B. He stays in the bullpen. In turn the Yanks shoudlve gone after a starter (JOHAN!)

But no. We fucked up. Brought in 2 rookies that never pitched in the Majors. And you expect them to win? GTFO. Now both are on the DL (Rasner has been a god send really) and now Jobas getting rushed in. Face it. Kei Igawa would've been a better option to use on Tuesday.

Also the Yankees shoudl've of never made Jobas pitch count public. Whats happens? The hitters target that and make him work to get him out early. However at the same time Joba shoudl've attacked that strike zone harder and not fuck around with curves.

As for offense. We don't need offense.
>> Anonymous
>>Yeah Phil Hughes and Ian Kennedy were great additions from a deep, fantastic farm system...

Their records were not bad in the farm leagues. Theyre just not ready for the majors. They have the stuff but try to be way to perfect. They need to stop. Kennedy showed the most progress.

However Phil Huge-count on the other hand.....cant say the same.
>> Anonymous
>>136405
I said they have kind of fixed that. Not once did I say they have a deep and fantastic farm system, fag-rag.
>> Anonymous
>>136405
As rookies go, they're not terrible. Sure, they've faultered. I've seen worse pitchers come out of the farm system. The injuries though, couldn't be expected to happen. It really hurts things more, since they won't have as many starts to get back into gear, or start learning from mistakes.

>>136405
again, i'm not a yankees fan but fuck man those kids haven't even pitched a full season. there's still time for them to turn into productive pitchers.

>> Anonymous
>>136405

The only two for a while. That and Melky, but they are misusing him becuase they keep wanting to mix up the outfeild.

The Sox farm system has really shined becuase they are 50% from the farm system, traded away what they couldnt use (and some they could), for another chunk of the roster and lost Buchholz, Dice-K, and Schilling for a little bit, and still is able to put out a rotation that can compete with almost any other rotation. In short, their money made them great, but the farm system keeps them that way.
>> Anonymous
>>136455
while none of the comments were directed to you per se the 'bandwagon' comment was directed towards red sox fans who did not watch baseball until the red sox started winning, ie the 2000s and therefore missed the yankees at their prime in the late 90s. and if they missed the watching the yankees in the late 90s then my comparison between the red sox of today and the yankees of the 90s would go over their heads and would explain why they all say "NUH UH THE YANKEES CAN'T WIN AND HAVE A HIGH PAY ROLL AND THEIR PLAYERS DON'T CARE LIEK THE SAWKS PLAYERS DO"

this all may or may not apply to you depending on whether or not you're a bandwagoning faggot
>> Anonymous
>That and Melky, but they are misusing him becuase they keep wanting to mix up the outfeild.

I fail to see the mixup.

Damon/Matsui in left, Melky in Center. Abreu/Duncan in right.

And on Melksters off nights Matsui in left and Damon in center.

that's like 6 different outfield combinations

>>136494

No ive been watching ball for awhile. Since O'neil, Cone, Wells, Strawberry, Boone, Williams. All those guys. Good years.

As for Bandwagon sox fans. I cant stand em. Say Carl Yastrzemski and watch em go Who? Ask em who Cy Young started for. They wont know.

Same for yanks fans. Theyre just as bad. I try talking baseball and it goes over their heads. They dont even know C.M.'s name. They cant tell you the 2 prior stadiums to Yankee stadium (Hilltop park and the Polo Grounds. Not including Shea Stadium) or who the Yankees were before they were the Yankees. Which were the Baltimore Orioles. Until they moved and become the Highlanders.
>> Anonymous
>>136500

Becuase he should be an everyday player with a better place in the line-up. Damon has been doing well, but either Abreu or Matsui should be in that DH spot. Melky is too good to lose any bit of time.
>> Anonymous
>that's like 6 different outfield combinations

Depth my friend. Always have to have a plan B.
However the constants are Abrue and Melkster. You cant think theyre gonna be in all 162 games. Theyre bound to have nights off.

98% Melkster is in center. How much more time does he need? And hes fine in the 9th spot. Hes getting hits for the top of line up to bat in. Since the bottom of the line up is producing 2 things. Jack and shit.

Now as for Damon, hes quick and hes got a good glove. However his arm is....meh. Matsui is fine in the DH. Hes hitting. The rotation between Matsui and Damon is fine. Leave it be. Its working.

>Boone? More like Scott Brosius.
