Hey /sp/,

I know that college and professional football has a huge gap in means of speed, intelligence, and performance but I have to ask it... Who would win if they played next week, the Detroit Lions or some top ranked NCAA team (Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, whatever)? I completely agree that professional football is so much more difficult compared to college but I mean honestly.. do you think the Lions could win?
>> Anonymous
Lions, simply because they are an NFL team, regardless of how much they suck.
>> Anonymous
The Lions would win, yes.

Washingtion Huskies vs Detroit Lions.
Epic.
>>
Is this a fucking joke? The Lions would run all over any fucking college team. The OP is a moron and should kill themself for posting such a fucking shitty thread.

It's not unreasonable to think that the Gators could put up a good fight against them.

They're arguably at a similar level athletically on offense, but that's irrelevant. By far the Lions' biggest weakness isn't talent-they're just completely incapable of making a good plan and executing. If they fall apart halfway through the game the same way they have all year, the Gators would walk all over them.

Are you guys fucking kidding me? The Lions would get their ass handed to them by any college team.
>> Anonymous
I don't know, I think florida could probably wreck the lions, maybe even texas or oklahoma, the lions are just that bad.

ITT we think an all-Rookie squad could beat an NFL team

This, the Lions, despite being perhaps the worst NFL team ever, are still made up of players that were the cream of the crop in college. In any college team it's basically guaranteed that 60% or so of the players will never be good enough to play in the NFL.

We really need to take coaching and coordination into consideration.

Today was the first time this season I watched a Lions game (I wasn't missing much) but the Lions looked lifeless, they're an unmotivated team. They don't think they can win and they play that way. If a college team got fired up they would roll the Lions.
>> Anonymous
in terms of individual quality there is no doubt that the Lions are far superior than any college kids.

but when it comes into working as a team, the Lions are an absolute garbage unit. a solid college team with good game day decisions on a good morale streak may do the job
>> Anonymous
Holy shit. There are actually people out there that entertain this question?

That...that's mind boggling. You're talking about some college team that has run nothing but a college playbook against an NFL team comprised of players with experience against NFL teams and NFL pro playbooks. Wow.

You people are fucking retarded. "fired up college team"...holy stupid

2001 Canes vs. 2008 Lions

hmmmm

One reason: Calvin Johnson.
It doesn't matter how good the college team would be (IMO, the experienced lines would destroy the college counterparts) but I don't think there is a college secondary good enough to hold back Calvin Johnson. If they just give him semi decent routes to run then they would score on every drive.

College is school, NFL is professional. Granted, the Lions fucking blowwwww this year, but they are still professionals no matter how hard they try and convince us otherwise.

pretty much this

the lions are fucking historically bad, but calvin johnson is still raping everyone the lions play against, and those are pro players
>> Anonymous
>>493642If they just give him semi decent routes to run then they would score on every drive.

Yeah, that's the problem. Not the fact the offensive line is a sieve. It's that they run a high school passing offense.

>>493633
Well the Lions don't do too well against pro players so...
>> Anonymous
>>493665

Watching them, it is nearly impossible to list whats wrong with the team. Watching their defense against the Titans run was actually like watching an NFL team play a college team.
>> Anonymous
>>493669
My favorite play was on the Titans' first TD run, all three linebackers filled the same B-gap on a sweep.

But hey, those linebackers are really fast, those they must actually be good.
>> Anonymous
>>493669
That's because the last time the Lions' players were coached was in college. So they are in effect a college all-star team.

What if the worst CFL team was to play a top ranked college team? Who would win?
>> Anonymous
hate to tell you but... skill level is not the only factor into determining the outcome of a game. preparation and determination go into it as well.

i think a top college team could beat a bottom feeder NFL team if they plan and execute to their highest. too bad these hypothetical games would never be played out.
>> Anonymous
Do you realize who plays on college teams?

Kids.
>> Anonymous
>>493699

That is why the Lions would win. The kids on the O-line would probably wet themselves before being knocked over down after down.

This is the stupidest fucking question. Look at the best NCAA teams in the country, how many of the players make it in the NFL. 9? 10 players? Now how many of those players even start? 2? maybe 3?

this same question was asked last year when the dolphins were shitting it up

What about OKC vs the best WNBA team.

LOL

The Florida Gators would beat the Lions handily. From an athletic standpoint they're by far and away the best this year, and they're certainly better coached than the Lions.

If you picked any other school, I would know that you're a troll, but since you picked an SEC team, I know that you're a retard. An incredible NCAA team (the 2004 USC Trojans) sent nine or ten players to the NFL, and most don't start, while the most productive has been either Reggie Bush or Matt Cassel. Yeah.

You are watching a great team like Florida play relatively bad teams. You have no fucking clue about the step up to the NFL.
>> anonymous
>>494521
........................................................................The Lions' defense would skull-fuck Florida back to kindergarten. The Gaytors have confidence and momentum....in the NCAA. You should try thinking better.

This isn't about USC 2004, this is about Florida vs. Detroit. Tell me Harvin and Rainey wouldn't run rampant on that shit D. I just think, if you had to pick a college team this year to beat an NFL team, Florida is it.

Although Calvin would probably dominate like he did in college.
>> Anonymous
The matchup might be pretty even if it's just the Lions' defense versus a great NCAA team's offense, but on the other side of the ball the NCAA team has no chance at all. I'd love to see an NCAA defensive line try to break through 5 NFL offensive linemen (two of which are pretty damn good), before Daunte Culpepper unleashes the dragon to Calvin Johnson (practically uncoverable in this situation).
>> Anonymous
If a team of the best college players had several months to play together as a team, they might, MIGHT, beat the Lions in one out of ten tries.
>> anonymous
>>494534
Do you think McCain will beat Obama???
>> Anonymous
>>494534Tell me Harvin and Rainey wouldn't run rampant on that shit D.

They would not run rampant on that shit D. The backup D-line alone would destroy the Florida O-line, which has maybe 3 NFL prospects on it, none of whom are ready to start in the NFL.

Ernie Sims would then run Tebow down within 2 seconds on every play.

Not all NFL players were college all stars. Not all college all starts become NFL players. Same way high school success doesn't necessarily translate to college success.

Back in the 60's and 70's I believe, they used to have a college all star team v. former nfl players. (I know, not the same a real nfl team), but the NFL'ers kicked the college kids ass about 95% of the time until they stopped playing those games.

Please don't think that NFL players are always on another level. It's not like Ernie Sims didn't get owned in college by guys that would never make a NFL roster. NFL is about potential and development...getting paid for 24/7 football prep. Lion's obviously have trouble executing and didn't develop many good players. They would probably win 8/10, but the Gators or OU on a hot streak could win.
