For a while I thought the internet streams weren't as good as tv coverage because they lacked commentary
but all these shitty life stories of the athletes segments done mid game are so horrible to watch

Yes. By waiting for someone to post pics of it on 4chan. Best of both worlds.

Either one. The sport is irrelevant. Announcers are terrible.

My father and I joke that McCarver has the ability to actually KILL people by his stupidity. This is why I mute the TV and listen to the radio for Red Sox games on Fox. The only problem then is the World Series, because then we get stuck with ESPN Radio's coverage, which is ALMOST as bad as Fox's TV coverage (one of these days I will figure out how to consistently pick up WRKO in western Vermont - I had it fading in and out last fall).

I don't hate ALL announcing, but it does seem as if the overall quality level has gone sharply down in recent years. It's ESPECIALLY bad for the Olympics, where most of the announcers are covering sports they are unfamiliar with, and which they assume their viewers are also unfamiliar with. Instead of simply explaining the basics, and expecting viewers to pick up the rest as they watch, they seem to want to insert familiar terms and ideas from different sports that don't REALLY fit. If I hear one more NASCAR analogy made during a cycling event, I'm may just fucking kill someone.

When they're not doing that, they're talking about the athletes so much that they often miss critical points of the contest. I saw this happen during one of the fencing matches, where they were so busy blabbering that they didn't even note who had won a point that was subjected to replay until after the next point had been scored as well. They couldn't even be bothered to pay attention.
