The Lakers beat the hornets in a regular season game, what's your point? First off CP3 and Kobe don't even play the same position, and LOL at the idea that MP3 candidacy is determined by how two candidates' teams do against each other in the regular season. The fact is

1) Paul turned one of the shittiest teams in the league into a title contender in the West with far less resources than Kobe has.
2) Paul is leading the league in both assists and steals
3) And he's done everything at the age of 22.

Kobe is a quitter who was about to run away and leave the Lakers if it weren't for Gasol being traded there. By being direclty reponsible for Kobe's retention along with being one of the best big men in the leagu, Gasol if anything deserves the honor not Kobe.

Lol Lakersfags. You're the 1st seed playing against an 8th seed. If San Antonio can sweep Phoenix, you BETTER sweep a shitty team like Denver. That's not accomplishment to brag about, it's a requisite.

Not a Lakerfag by any means, just not deluded.

1. Paul did not orchestrate huge turnaround, that was due to the amount of injuries NO suffered last year.
2. Kobe has more help? Yeah, D West (all-star), Stoyo (multiple time all-star and one of the greatest shooters in NBA history), Chandler, and Bonzi are scrubtastic.
3. Big fucking deal how old he is. If Mutombo was the MVP this year, would it matter he was 80?
>> Anonymous
Last year Hornets was top 5 on players missing games from injuries, they still have the same pieces, and I believe that had Peja not missed the whole year added by both CP3 and West missing half the season they could easily come in as the 5th or 6th seed. People who thinks the Hornets suddenly became good because CP3 improved did not really watch the Hornets last year.

I think both CP3 and Kobe has legitimate claims on the MVP, I wouldn't mind if CP3 wins it, but his late season finishes has really hurt his chance. And yes, Denver quit because Kobe killed them. Watch the game.

>>78327

>1. Paul did not orchestrate huge turnaround, that was due to the amount of injuries NO suffered last year.
Do you purposely ignore every interview regarding the Hornets? The coach, the players, his teammates have all said that Paul is single handedly the biggest force in the turnaround. You don't top the league in assists and NOT make your team better- and that's the epitome of a MVP.

>2. Kobe has more help? Yeah, D West (all-star), Stoyo (multiple time all-star and one of the greatest shooters in NBA history), Chandler, and Bonzi are scrubtastic.
Don't give me that bullshit. Two years ago, I can guarantee you 90% of non-Hornet NBA fans could tell you who Chandler & West were or what team they played for. EVERYONE knows Gasol, Odom the veteran Fisher (who has saved their asses so many times) and the likes.

>3. Big fucking deal how old he is. If Mutombo was the MVP this year, would it matter he was 80?
No but it would be less impressive. The fact that someone as young as Chris Paul (one of the youngest players in the league at that) can show the initiative and raw talent to catalyze such an enormous change in a franchise is a huge plus in the argument for Paul.

Funny how all of a sudden NOfags completely forget how much Dallas chokes in the playoffs.

lol at Lakersfags who think the Nuggets quit because OF Kobe. Even the Nuggets knew from the offset that they shouldn't be in the playoffs. Golden State held it's 8th spot for all but the last month of the regular season. They had a nightmarish schedule and Denver didn't.

In reality Dallas or GS should be playing the Lakers and would have put up a much more decent fight. Denver is a shit team, one of the worst defenses in the league and not even a consistent offense to boot (which they once had). Throw in a temper tantrum pussy like Carmelo Anthony and of course they're gonna bawwwww when things don't go their way. They're the Nuggets, that's what they do.

not 78327, but you have to be nuts to mention Odom and Fisher like they're gift from God. Odom has been terribly inconsistent until Gasol came in, and no one gave a shit about Fisher signing with the Lakers. Now that the Lakers are successful everyone is going OMG FISHER + ODOM = HELP !!1111 Please, Lakers do have better overall talent, but you're really stretching it on that one.

CP3 definitely glued the team with his playmaking skill, but he didn't make his teammates better. Chandler is still unable to score aside from dunks, Peja is still a guy who is incapable of scoring inside the arc, and David West has always been a versatile scorer whom no one noticed because he missed too many games. In all fairness, I don't believe in superstars making the teammates better. Their teammates are what they are going to be regardless of who they play with, and if they do improve it would be credited to them, not the all star.

You have a warped and unrealistic view of what "making your teammates better means". By your view, that implies Paul should be their personal trainers and completely rectify each one of their personal problems with the game. No.
Following that logic, Kobe most DEFINITELY would not be considered someone who makes his team mates better.

But Paul is a remarkable and insightful passer, and with 11 assists a game, he generates 22 points somewhere. That is, his teammates do 22 ppg better overall completely contingent upon him. That's a lot more than Kobe can say.

Houston fan, Kobe for MVP. He pulls LA, might have more help, but people are overinflating just how good this Hornets team is. 3/4 of the proposed experts called New Orleans a surprise team, last year when they were riddled with injuries and just missed the playoffs, my room-mate and I in college talked about that teams future, called them a top 4 team in the West when healthy, sure enough, this year, they were. They have the proper sharp shooters and players around Paul to make that system in particular work.

It's not necessarily the players around you, it's the system you're in. Sacramento didn't have huge standouts either when they were a threat to win the title but Adelman had them playing excellently.

Point is there is statistically no difference between the defense of Dal/Den when you adjust for # of possessions/style of play. So your earlier point about Den not having any defense and that's why it's so easy for LA to stomp them is invalid.

CP3 is great, don't get me wrong. He's already the best PG in the game and will win MVP sometime in the future. But he's not there yet.

Bottom line; Kobe delivers when it counts.

>>78355

Fisher is having a career year here in LA, why? Because of the triangle system that allows teammates to create space for him to shoot, and Kobe is the one who attracts attention from perimeter defenders to collapse on him. In Game 1, he has a bad game, took many outside shots without hitting much of them, but because he stayed outside, the secondary defender, usually on Gasol, is lured to the outside. Result? Odom and Pau killing in the paint. Also, the Lakers suddenly have guys like Farmar, Turiaf, and Ariza, who are not known to make jumpers, start making them. Maybe because they have a captain who practices 300 jumpshots a day, and they are motivated to do so? Nah, probably just coincidence.

Barkley said people UNDERESTIMATE Denver, considering the popular consensus was Lakers taking it in 5 games, Barkley was probably thinking 6 since he gave credit to Denver's offense, which at times, is actually as bad as their defense.

What's more, Barkley said it would be better for the Lakers to play Dallas. While I think Dallas has too many issues, they're definitely not going to be down 0-3 with a 16 point margin.

>>78400

>As far as my opinion Paul choked down the stretch.
Losing to a 0.7+ team in the middle of a harsh road trip isn't a choke. Losing to two sub 0.4 teams when you are a 0.7+ team is. Had the game with the Lakers' been juxtaposed with any other game within a 3-4 margin, there wouldn't even be a claim of choking. Not even a hornetsfag, but NO other top 8 team in the West lost to both the Grizzlies and the Bobcats, much less back to back.

>LeBron same thing, but he's probably more valuable because his team is ass.
Funny, that seems to be most Lakersfags' basis of appeal for his nomination.

You don't have a point. You bring up a couple of games where the Lakers stumbled without their 2nd best player. Hey, remember back in November when the T-wolves beat the Hornets? Hey, remember last year when the Hornets couldn't beat anybody because their guys were injured?

When it counted the most, Kobe showed up and won, Paul didn't. You can deny it all you want, but the box score doesn't lie.
>> Anonymous
>>78433
And thank you for proving again that you're a stupid idiot. You could juxtapose any single loss by any team with any one of their other losses and it wouldn't make a difference. Losses that happen a week before the playoffs don't weigh more than a loss in the opening game of the season.

Good teams minimize the loss by playing well the entire season. The Lakers' considered that final game against the Hornets a must win; but if they hadn't choked against two sub 0.4 teams, they would never have been in the predicament to begin with.

And don't give me that weak shit about missing Gasol. If the Spurs can beat the Mavs without Duncan (which, they did) and if the fucking ROCKETS can go on a 22-game win streak without Yao, then you better damn well be able to beat a pair of sub 0.4 teams with or without Gasol if you want to make a case for MVP without being laughed at. That's the whole point of MVP - you pull your team through tough times.

This was the first season Paul got to play with this lineup, with everyone healthy. Given his incredible season coupled with the young team's success as a whole, I'm much much more sold on Paul than Kobe.

>> Anonymous
>>78438

I personally think those two losses are inexcusable, but using those two games as an argument is just as bad as comparing player stats when they play against each other because it's such a small sample. If you want to talk about the whole season, fine, Lakers finished first by playing great at the end of the season, a trait of a potentially strong playoff contender. You can say there's only one game difference between them and the Hornets/Spurs, but the fact they got it and not the other teams is making a statement.
>> Anonymous
>>78438
>the Lakers' considered that final game against the Hornets a must win

yeah, and the hornets didn't care at all. they didn't care that it would determine the #1 seed. they didn't care that everyone was hyping it as the game that would decide mvp. they took the night off, amirite?

The Hornets were off a nightmarish road trip when they played the Lakers, while you were dicking around with the likes of Portland and the Clippers.

Like I said, when they lose is irrelevant at that point especially considering the conditions. And your only comeback is Minnesota. Exceptions happen. But twice in a row? That's fail. N.O. didn't lose twice in a row to abysmal teams. And considering this is their first season playing together and yet they ended up with a better record than all but 3 teams in the league? Yeah I can live with that.

I am not the one who was talking about Hornets losing to the Lakers. Your argument is Hornets lost to the Lakers because they're on a tough road trip, whereas the Lakers lost to subpar teams after they won at Dallas and Utah without their starting PF and C, both conditions are harsh. I am not going to excuse the crapfest the Lakers put up, but don't make excuses for one team while ignoring the other because you have a personal bias.

Why the fuck is reading comprehension so hard for you Lakers fags. HORNETS lost to a 0.7+ TEAM, YOUR LAKERS, after THEIR road trip. YOU lost to teams that San Antonio beat with their second string. There's a BIG difference, it's not bias it's an obvious disparity in the QUALITY of opponents both teams played after their respective road trips.

>> Anonymous
>>78474

No. You fail. You're talking about conditions. Lakers are playing without 3 rotation players, won in Dallas and Utah, whom have the two best home records, and it took too much out of them against Memphis and Bobcats.

And NO didn't just lose to the Lakers, they weren't even playing like a 2nd seed with their 20 point deficit at the half, they did come back in the 2nd half, but the Lakers for most of the time have a double digit lead. The way the Hornets played is as inexcusable as the Lakers losing to two subpar teams.

Hornets also played without any injury on crucial players. But I am sure you won't consider it because it doesn't favor your argument.

I think I've been trolled harder. I'm arguing with someone whose rationale for MVP includes someone's age, a turnaround that is a result of massive injuries last year, and the Lakers losing a couple of games without Gasol, even though they played better than the Hornets in the game that mattered most and the season overall (hence the better record).

Thanks for proving that Lakers are the single most deluded, self-absorbed fans in the league despite not even getting out of the first round in the past there years. Gasol won't get you out of the West, and you'll have another meaningless year.

You can weave your own delusions about how you think the NBA should feed Kobe the MVP on a silver platter, but in the end you'll just be like Dirk last year. You'll be an MVP with nothing to show for it. Even if the Hornets don't get out of the West, if Chris Paul won the award it would symbolize the miraculous turnaround the franchise has and a stepping stone for a strong franchise for years to come. That in itself has a lot more substance than your grubbing rabid fans idolatry for someone who can't even beat a pair of <0.4 teams.
