>The Stadium is a national treasure, part of our country’s history and our heritage as New Yorkers. It should be a landmark; especially when it is still more than capable of benefiting the community economically. Yankee Stadium could be a museum, a shopping mall, a recreational sports complex or maybe all of the above. They could bring a branch of the Hall of Fame there. The Stadium could create jobs and revenue while allowing us to preserve a piece of our history for future generations.

I’ve started a web site called SaveYankeeStadium.org to help gather support for the Stadium and have asked visitors to sign a petition. My only goal is to support the Stadium and keep it standing so that one day my kids can see it.

Good luck with that.

If it is saved, it will be completely covered in discarded crack vials and heroin syringes within a decade.

Hey OP you might wanna check out Highbury and what happened to it. It's somewhat related, and it should give you a real life example, although it's a bit different from your idea.

Arsenal turned their old stadium into an income generating aprt complex, which is actually paying off for the debt they for their current stadium.

George Steinbrenner here, and wow am I sorry. If I had any idea that some dude, or even a couple of dudes, on the INTERNET no less, wanted me to to go ahead with my big plans, into which I have invested more money than you'll ever see, I'd have put a stop to it long ago! I may be a businessman trying to turn a profit (something I'm damn good at, I might add), but that doesn't mean I won't throw it all away so some guy can maybe one day take his kids to a dilapidated old ballpark!

Shit, I better call the boys and tell 'em to call it all off! Thanks for showing me the light, sport!

Yankee Stadium is due to become parking for the new Yankee Stadium, thus there is zero chance of it being saved.

I applaud your effort but there is no chance of it being saved. Unfortunately, in this country, we destroy our landmarks in the name of "progress". Its a shame.

All countries have done this at one point or another, America isn't really a special case.

Signed it, OP. I agree 100%. To tear down such a memorable and historic venue would be a slap in the face to Professional Baseball.

Burn the shithole to the ground. Fuck the Yankees.

I posted the link on my Facebook, OP. Let's all try and save this piece of Baseball History.

The Yankees won't make the playoffs in the last year at Yankee Stadium. Thus they are burning it down.

Fuck the Yankees. Somebody needs to bring back the Sonics to Seattle. A basketball team in Oklahoma is full of lol.

OP here.

Didn't start website I found it off a blog but everyone should share this.

I don't want to hear "fuck yankees tear it down". This place is apart of history, its as simple as that.

I'm all for history, but what's the point of having an empty stadium just sit there. It's a waste of space. If the Yankees were really serious, they'd refurbish it.
>> Anonymous
I dunno, I feel like its "history" should transcend just being a sports venue. Does it do that? It would be great to see it still around as a sort of landmark, but only if it is in use.
It seems like a lot of sports fans (and sports media) throw that word, history, around a lot. It's not as if we are about to just stop sport altogether.
If we can find something useful to do with it and keep it beautiful (thus adding something to its area) I'm all for it. But if we are just keeping some building around because of something that used to happen there, what a waste.

I hope the stadium collapses.

Umm. How about the park land that the Bronx needs back? That is the real reason why they are tearing it down in exchange for the new stadium. it's kind of a waste to keep a shell of a stadium out in the open like that. NYC doesn't have a lot of space to work with enough as it is.
>> Anonymous
If it's being turned into a park then they'll probably have a monument to the fact that Yankee Stadium used to stand there. Like keep a section of the outfield fence or something.

shea stadium is getting taken apart (you can buy a pair of seats for only $869)

they mentioned they are going to mark the parking lot where home plate etc were after the stadium is gone. when the mets are not playing it will be used for wheelchair baseball.
>> Anonymous
>>298560
No, that's Shea.

They're turning Yankee Stadium into parkland, because they built the new stadium on what was previously a park, so legally they need to replace it.

I think they should make the park a nice tribute to the stadium, keep some relics of the past there.

yea cubs fans wouldn't stand by and let that kinda shit happen to wrigley
but luckily for us people pay shitloads of money to the cubs just to tour the stadium
so they are probably gonna keep it for as long as whatever ownership we have has a hardon for money
and who doesn't

Steinbrenner has always been quite incompetent as a businessman. He made much of his money as a "shipping magnate" by getting huge Federal contracts and deliberately not fulfilling them. He could get away with this because he has powerful friends in the Senate (especially John Murtha and Daniel Inouye) who would keep the heat off of him.

Now, he (and the Mets ownership for that matter) are ripping off taxpayers to build their new stadiums. Firstly, they aren't going to pay rent to the city, which will own the stadium, and secondly much of the money they are putting up works as a shady tax write off.
