Elway said he was absolutely confident McCain could stage his own fourth-quarter comeback. "Until we get to that vote November 4, I don't care what the polls say," he said, saying the race was closer than the polls suggest. "I think he needs a field goal," Elway said. "That's all he needs. He needs a field goal."
Judging from his speech this morning, McCain plans to keep hammering away against Obama on taxes, spending -- and the question of whether he is ready to become commander in chief, the subject of a new McCain campaign ad this morning.
"Senator Obama said yesterday that if you want to know how he would respond in a crisis, look what he's done during his campaign," McCain said. "But we've seen the wrong response from him over and over during this campaign."
