Halladay
Burnett
McGowan

1-2-3 punch from hell.
>> Anonymous
>>14220
Marcum is pretty darn good too.

Then the relievers are fucking sexy. The hitting is fucking sexy.

Jays, please?

is this work?

I don't know...so they lost Glaus, so what?

They got Eckstein and Rolen NOT to mention Wells will be healthy, Rios, Hill, Overbay is off and on and Adam Lind.
>> Anonymous
>>14223
Marcum IS good but I was just pointing out the 1-2-3 punch, but the key is A.J's gotta stay healthy.

And the 'pen....scary. And with Ryan coming back..DAMN SON.

Wasn't that said about the Jays last year? LOL

Yanks will finish 2nd, but will miss out on the playoffs.

Yep. Just like last year....oh wait!
>> Anonymous
Here's my rant:

The Yankees really didn't do anything int eh offseason but remain the same. Sure they got A-Rod back (woohoo) but what they needed was a 8th inning guy and a Ace Starter (Santana). They lost out on Santana, don't get me wrong Wang is good but he's not an "Ace" yet. AS for 8th inning guy..Yes Joba is back in set-up FOR NOW but who did they sign? Fucking LATROY HAWKINS!? WTF!? Let me remind you he got LIT-UP when he was in the AL East before.

Rant over.

Injuries, etc to non-injury prone players.

-Halladay isn't injury prone.. took a ball of the leg and it shattered and had an appendectomy so in b4 bs.
-Wells doesn't hit .248 or whatever.
-Rios got a fucking infection or some shit, won't happen again.
-Ryan, I don't know.

They've got the best roster in the AL East. Fire Gibbons and we're set.

Really? Last year our hitting was a definite aberration and assuming you believe Boston has a better roster, look at their rotation.

Beckett and Dice-K. Nothing else - and we hit them fairly well.

Their line-up is far from impressive too.

You say that, and then remember Jon Lester exists. The Red Sox have the best young players in baseball, and over the next 2-3 years they will be dominating the AL East like the Yanks did from 98-02.

Coco/Ellsbury as a 4th outfielder. Ortiz is healthy, Manny will bounce back. Sean Casey/Alex Cora on the bench.

Beckett, Dice-K ummm.....Lester and OH! and Buchholz.

Not to mention they're bullpen. Delcarmen, Okijima and Papelbon.

>>14268
>Jon Lester is NOT good.

I'd prefer Halladay, Burnett, McGowan, Marcum, Litsch, Janssen over him (possible starters for the Jays). Maybe even Gustavo.

I'm with you brother.

As long as this man can stay healthy, we should have a good shot at the World Series. With Prince, Braun, Hardy, Hart, Hall, a competent Rickie Weeks, Cameron, and Kendall, we should have a solid everyday lineup. Plus we have Counsell and maybe even Koskie coming off the bench.

And we used to be in the AL East, so who gives a shit?
>> Anonymous
>>14379

Ever since I was a lad, I have experienced nothing but soul crushing season after soul crushing season.

And I agree about Sheets, he's almost an assured win every game he starts. I'm not so keen about our 4-5 slot and relief staff though. Also, I really hope Gagne gets back to his old dominance. Every time Turnbow gets into a sticky situation I want to kill myself.

Also Kendall can't possibly be worse than Estrada was defensively last year.

Can he?
>> Anonymous
>>14383
The one constant about Johnny Estrada is- He gets fatter and lazier. The only reason he was behind the plate is because he was an embarrassment anywhere else so i'm glad we got rid of him. I really like the front end of our rotation, obviously Sheets, then the fantasticc Yovani Gallardo, then probably Suppan or Manny Parra, who is really coming on strong. They said we may send Villanueva to Nashville for the first few games, which I think is crazy. He should be our three slotter. If we had Sheets-Gallardo-Villanueva-Parra-Suppan, that would be a solid rotation, as long as Suppan keeps his shit up. Bush may be better as a bullpen hand, and I just flat-out hate Claudio Vargas. I live in Sacramento, and could only go to one Brewers game (vs. the Giants), and Claudio gave up seven fucking runs in the first inning. Hell, he didn't even get an out. We should seriously cut him. Turnbow, as long as he is consistent should be our setupman, but I can understand your frustration, and we may want to move Shouse, or Torres, or even Riske to that spot.

Also, i'm not too worried about Gagne. I think the spotlight in Boston killed him along with all the media attention. He won't get any national attention in Milwaukee, so I think he should flourish.
>> Anonymous
>>14400

Not to mention Estrada swings at fucking EVERYTHING. It's like he'd rather get castrated than hold off on a pitch.

I absolutely love Shouse. Fantastic lefty relief.

Villanueva really impressed me at the end of the year. I hear he's got the 4 spot and Bush has the 5, and who knows where Cappy fits into the rotation now. Provided he doesn't have a fucking meltdown like he did last year, he could still make a bit of an impact.

And yeah, Vargas is absolutely shit terrible. He seemed to give up two homeruns every single game. No idea why the fuck we still have him. I'd rather have Jim Abbot back than use him.
>> Anonymous
>>14408
You're right Shouse is fantastic. I remember the Mets game last year when I think it was Spurling, who started the top of the twelfth and gave up two walks without ushering an out, and Shouse is called in and he gets the first guy to strike out, and the next to ground into the 6-4-3. Just a solid, solid lefty.

I really can't wait to see how Braun does this year too. I think he's got MVP caliber, and at Left field, he won't have to worry as much about his shitty 3rd base skills.
>> Anonymous
>>14418

Haha, I was at Miller Park for one of the games in the Mets series, and Wise comes on, throws 10 straight balls, gets booed off the field, and Shouse came on and fixed the mess he made. He's always consistent and has a delicious sub delivery.

My one issue with moving Braun to left field is that Matt LaPorta now has nowhere to play! Also, with Cameron in center, Tony Gwynn Jr might end up on the trading block, which I think is a shame. As much as I love Hall as a person and for what he did two years ago, he really contributed nothing last year and I was sort of pulling for trading him. Who knows though, maybe a move to 3rd will be good for him.

My dad was born and raised in Milwaukee, and years of disappointment have taught him not to have hope anymore. He assures me Prince and Braun will do terrible this year and we'll have a losing season. That poor old man.
>> Anonymous
>>14427
Don't I know it. My dad was in college in 82, and he always tells me that growing up in Wisconsin after the Packers glory days in the 60s was unbearable. The Brewers made it to GAME SEVEN OF THE WORLD FUCKING SERIES and lose. But I think that's why people love Robin Yount so much. Molitor was a pussy. He left us and went to Toronto, but Yount had heart. He stayed with the team and the city that loved him.

The Red Sox young players are ridiculously overhyped. RIDICULOUSLY

Ellsbury = almost no power, wow a light hitting outfielder, BFD

Pedroia = shit range, no power

Lester = no control, whatsoever

Buchholz = knocks on his command and control, he threw a no hitter, he must be the next Cy Young LOL

On any other team no one gives a fuck about these prospects.

I know, i'm so tired about hearing how great all these guys are going to be. The Mariners almost traded Jeremy Reed for Jon Lester, but felt THEY were getting the raw end of that deal. Granted I think at this point Lester is obviously the better player, still his value is not as high as perceived by many. Seriously why do so many people overvalue red sox prospects? Why did the mighty Sox's need J.D. Drew last winter if they have all these uber-prospect outfielders?
>> Anonymous
>>16876
Not special, just 26 championships and the most storied franchise in all of baseball

18 of which were won before the 60s that no one gives a shit about now. The Yanks are one of those lucky teams that fared extremely well in the beginning and got to keep going. They're like the Boston Celtics or Green Bay Packers of the MLB. The fans are always going "HURR WE'VE WON 1000 WORLD TITLES" despite the fact that the majority of them were won decades ago.

I'll give them credit for the 3 they won in the 90s, and the handful in the 70s.
