In 2007, the New England Patriots were already a dynasty and a Team of the Decade, joining the 60's Packers, 70's Steelers, the 80's 49ers, and the 90's Cowboys.

They followed that by getting a rejuvenated Randy Moss, setting incredible offensive records, and doing something that hadn't been done since 1972, going undefeated in the regular season.

Their Super Bowl opponent? The Giants, a wild card team with a wildly inconsistent quarterback, an angry coach who had picked a fight with the Giants recently-retired superstar running back, and a boatload of question marks on both sides of the ball.

How could the 2007 Patriots lose Super Bowl 42? How was it possible?

I do not hate the Patriots, and I do not mean to be sarcastic, overly negative or a troll in any way. Logically and rationally, 18-1 is undoubtedly one of the most remarkable chokes in the history of sports. I seriously cannot think of two other chokes that even compare.

New England fans earn this derision with their arrogance and braggadocio. That's also a pretty logical conclusion.

WUT!?!

please, don't try and pretend they were some kind of amazing, they won because they could put up great offense, that defense was turrible

Just stop. Those are the universally accepted dynasty teams by decade.

If you want to disagree, fine, but know that you're in the huge minority.

they won three Super Bowls in four years...what difference does it make how they did it?

In baseball, the choke-ago Cubs wear the crown of fail.

You're right. It's definitely THE most remarkable chokes, not just "one of the most remarkable" ones.

It's kind of weird to call a 17-14 game (with the Giants' last 7 coming in the final minute) a choke by the Patriots.

18-1 was my second favorite sports moment of all time, behind the 2003 ALCS. What a coincidence they both have to do with BAWWWston fags chocking on a dick

Cubs and Angels didn't choke away a 3-0 series lead, they got their asses handed to them from start to finish.

Calling it a choke job is kinda stretching it. The Giants' defense was seemingly the only one in the NFL that realized stopping the Pats hinged on containing Tom Brady at all costs (or perhaps, the only one that was capable of doing it). Tom normally has godmode clutch seated behind his cushy OL, but by the second half you could see that he was getting genuinely unnerved by all the pressure the Giants put on him. I don't think he was forced to scramble as much all season as he was in that single game.

The Patriots didn't choke. The Giants just made Tom Brady choke.

He still had like a 95 passer rating and he did lead his team down the field for a touchdown right before the final Eli Manning drive. It's far from a choke (like Brady actually did the year before at Indy). They just got plain outplayed.

>>493104

Wes Welker still made 11 receptions. The only time when Brady himself failed hard was when he couldn't get the super-last-second drive after Manning owned the Pats secondary.
>> Anonymous
>>493138
I don't really see how Welker having a good game makes Brady choking. Also since when is not converting on hail mary passes failing? there's a reason it's considered a miracle when it works.
>> Anonymous
>>493143

This is what I meant. Yeah, the Pats faced a defense that was actually good enough to stop them for once, so they couldn't score a million bajillion points. Who done well was lil' Manning. Whoda thunk Peyton's scrawny kid brother could out do the Pats defense?

Loss, certainly, but choke job is another thing. It took a scramble through 4 tackles, and someone catching the ball with his helmet to stop them.

I don't think 18-1 comes anywhere near the all-time football choke. As a whole, nothing will ever compare to 4 consecutive super bowl losses to the NFC East.

I think the the most choke fail team in history was in the AFC East. they were from the early 90's they lost 4 super bowls in a row. the big game 4 strait years come on

I'll give you a hint it wasn't the patriots.
