I know people in Tampa and they all say no one really cares. Sure, a few people hop on the bandwagon or something but for the most part there is no sports culture, ie Boston, Montreal, Buffalo, etc

As near as I can tell, there is ZERO sports culture in America anyway, outside of the northeastern U.S/New England, and Chicago.

Prove me wrong.

In Bostn/NY/Chicago, the population lives and dies by their team. They are educated on every player and every front office move, and spend many hours not only dissecting such things, but the sports columnists work just as hard to keep the teams in honest.

In Texas, every fan is a fair-weather fan, and the sports columnists suck corporate cock for free box seats.

I'm a recovering Texan, and I approve this message.

That's not sports culture. That's sports hillbilly.

bullshit thats just cowboys fans. the spurs and rockets have huge stable fan bases. also the culture around high school and collegiate football(ameriKKKan rugby) is HUGE.

For someone claiming to be from Texas, you know very little about the sports culture.

In Texas, high school football is not culture, it's a sickness. Longhorn fans mostly impressed me with their restraint, but Aggies fans are all rednecks. Texas Tech isn't even aware they're in the Big 12.

The Rockets only sell a lot of tickets when they're winning; this theory remains untested in the Mavs new arena, and ditto the Spurs, because they've both been successful for the past 10-12 years. But I doubt the average fan could name more than 2 players.

lol, high school football games in the South are fucking insane. The whole town goes to the games in places like Texas and Florida, that is exactly what a sports culture is.

I actually know quite a bit about sports culture. The fact that you're arguing with me proves that you don't.

Try reading a newspaper not printed in Texas.
>> Anonymous
>>11580
do all the other newspapers tell you that texas sports suck?

as some one from new england and living in texas i can tell you your wrong. yes boston/ NY fans will know every slight move by every team and talk about it all goddamn day. but texas football is fucking rabid culture. and basing anything on stupid columniists is retarted
>> Anonymous
>>11584
Texans are rabid for football; no one's arguing that point.

But if you'd every actually gone to a sporting even in Texas, you'd notice there are more jerseys for the opposing team than the home team.

Does that shit ever happen at Yankee Stadium? I think not.

so we can agree that saying texas has zero sports culture is incorrect
>> Anonymous
>>11597
No. All I agreed to is "Texas has sports."

Culture is something entirely different.

And anyone who lives and dies by high school football really needs to buy a freaking television.

That's because a lot of Phoenicians are transplants and are too ignorant/douchebaggy to adopt the home team. It's a sports law, man: Unless you've been rooting for a team literally your entire life, you must adopt the new home team when you move cities.

>>11612
is it legal to have your old city as your secondary team? thats what i do

Tampafag...Think of the Tampabay area as a decent amount of hardcore fans with loads and loads as bandwagon fans. For the most part its good but a lot of fans are douches who don't know there shit.

I don't know, but the Rays are gay. You only need to look at the GM and manager to see that. And look at that stadium. Looks like it's ready to go yachting on the bay. If they build that shit, watch it get blown away in tropical storm force winds.

Let's just agree, the further west you go, the more sucky sports fans get!!
>> Anonymous
Are they kidding me? They actually want to build that contraption?

>Let's just agree, the further west you go, the more sucky sports fans get!!

Sorta but not really. Broncos fans are way more apeshit for their team than any fans between there and the Atlantic Ocean.

Basically, you're looking for a GreenBay-level type of fandom (they are rabid AND educated), in whatever sport that happens to be. Most teams on the east coast seem to have this, and definitely Chicago, and yeah, even the Miami Dolphins.

I guess Tampa too recently became a "sports city" for anyone to give a shit, tho. Bucs have only been there since 1976, other teams even more recently. So it's just easier to justify your choice if you're wearing a Sawx/Giants/Celtics jersey.

And to the guy who called the Tampa stadium ugly-- yes. But have you seen the old one?
