Hey Eurofags, got a question for you guys. Ok I am an Amerifag and have always liked your brand of football.

I have watched the last to World Cups (not just the last games), and have wanted to start becoming a fan of a Club. I am of French descent and have always cheered them on in the WC fan.

Problem is I do not know any of the teams. This is my question what is a good, exciting French Football Club? Does not have to be great.

Again, interested to get more into the sport; thanks in advance.

Picture somewhat related, but I heard he no longer plays for a French club.

Maybe a stupid question but why is the National team very good?

Zidane, but he's retired now, so they suck

Thierry Henry is on the National team.

He dives and wins penalties in the final.

Everyone with at least an ounce of talent is immediately whisked away by big clubs from other countries.
It keeps the French league shitty, but there's plenty of room for talents to develop.
So the national squad floats on French players playing everywhere but France.
And all players are former French colonists and not actual French. Except Ribery.

itt: jealous britfags. your national team will never qualify for a major tournament againt, live with it
>> Anonymous
No one cares about Ligue 1.

Pick a team that you can actually watch on T.V. Arsenal consistently has a lot of them cheese-eating surrender monkeys, and most French people I've met support Arsenal.

France: Shitty clubs, great national team
England: Great clubs, shitty national team

If you are into bandwagon go with Lyon, I like Marseille and PSG because of Pauleta.

Now that I think about it, Marseille is the only french club to ever win the champion's cup/champion's league and portuguese clubs have already won four of them. Something's wrong with that.
>> Anon22
French ? Marseille.
Top older players like Cisse and top youngsters like Nasri. Good long term club for followers.
>> Anonymous
The French league is pretty shit to be honest and all the best players get taken out. Support someone in the English premiership instead. Just not those dirty cunts arsenal
>> Anonymous
What's with all the Britfags? A few years ago their teams were complete shit, then they start throwing cash around, and suddenly everyone is their fan?
>> Anonymous
Find out from where you're descending and pick that town.

France has a great national team but nobody gives a shit about their league srsly. Most of the good french players wind up leaving their french clubs to go abroad.

They really dont show much football on American T.V. Accept on ESPN during the Championship league. That seem to be just English and Italian clubs.

>>90731

Do not really like to bandwagon. Does not matter to me about the teams record. If they have an good um incoming team is what I am looking for. I do not know how it is in your guys side of the world but in our football, players change teams like they do shirts.

>>90740

Good call.

Lyon, maybe Bordeaux next year.

I agree with Bourdeaux.

There is no exciting French Football club. Any decent French players don't play in France and the Ligue 1 teams all play Defensive football. It's like having 20 Chelsea teams all in one league.
>> Anonymous
OP here. Let me ask this question..are there any French Clubs with a really serious fan base? I have been to England a couple of times and admired the spirit of Man U
and Chelsea fans how they live and die for there clubs success. Any French clubs like that?

For example we have the Greenbay Packers and and Cleveland Browns to have really hardcore fans.

>>90814

Every football team will have some "hardcore" fans who will follow their team whatever. Most teams have about the same number of these. The difference is that successful teams get bandwagoners. My suggestion is trying to find a fucking sweet shirt.

I don't know French football that well, but I'd recommend you pick a shit team so that you don't look like a bandwagoning cunt.

PSG 4 life yo.

why in the hell do you want to cheer for a french club? french league sucks hard

hell, just be another Blackburn fan and you'll be happy
>> Anonymous
>>90814
I think Marseille has the biggest/best fan base in France, though Lyon is getting more and more fans each year, due to their dominance in the French league.
>> Anonymous
The only good thing about the EPL is that's you get more chances to watch your club on TV. Other than that, their league is boring as hell and is generally complete shit.
>> Anonymous
Most french players are niggers anyway.

If you're not of Guadelupean descent or something like that you should follow a club from other country than France.

I'd suggest Barcelona. They have been playing offensive football since the late 80s, it's like their trademark. In times of tactical football like these, I appreciate their romantic approach to the sport.

That's a stupidly poor argument. People focus on Cruijff's side, on Bobby Robson's side, and forget the Van Gaal side, the Rexas side and the others that were bo-o-o-o-ring.

Barça are just as entertaining as Man U, Arsenal, Real, Lyon or Bayern.

I actually began following Barca during the (first) Van Gaal era. Figo, Rivaldo, Cocu, Kluivert, Luis Enrique... all at their best. That was a fantastic team. You're also forgetting about the first years with Rijkaard.

I'm a greekfag by the way, so I'm not trying to defend "my" club. I just find their philosophy admirable.
>> Gentleman
>>90845
I was talking more about the second Van Gaal team. The first team was just Bobby Robson's side but not quite as well managed...

The second Van Gaal side was : Goalie kicks ball as far as possible. Striker tries to get it & shoot. If goal, good. If miss, get 10 players in box until goalkeeper gets ball back.

man, there are pretty good teams in Ligue 1 Orange such as Lyon, Paris SG, Bordeaux

PSG lol

They are closer to getting relegated than fulhamerica.

I agree, I'm french and I can say that Paris SG sucks so much. Lyon and Bordeaux are very decent teams anyway.

I picked my team by watching the WC and admiring a certain player, John Terry. So now I'm a Chelsea fan.

I don't see the problem. I'd be willing to bet you're sad as we're on the heels of first place and Arsenal/Tottenham/Liverpool buggered it again.
