I think this should be BIG MONEY DOMINANCE, not BIG MARKET DOMINANCE.

Being in a big market doesn't mean you will spend the money, and being in a small market doesn't mean you won't spend the money.

>Being in a big market doesn't mean you will spend the money, and being in a small market doesn't mean you won't spend the money.

when does that NOT happen? i guess its just an odd coincidence that the royals, pirates, athletics and twins dont spend shit?

Umm..... I can think of a counter Argument.. its happened before, why not now, the end.

Pittsburgh a small market?
Shit, even I hope CB rapes and murders your retarded ass.
>> Anonymous

pirates have the worst attendance in the league. plus pittsburgh isn't exactly a huge market regardless. only the steelers have consistent attendance.
>> Anonymous
can anyone explain the florida marlins then?
>> Anonymous

>can anyone explain the florida marlins then?
got lucky in first half, will fade to consistent third with shitty payroll.

here's the easiest way to tell the difference between a big market and small market team:
if a good big market team goes on a 6-game win streak, on espn they say "and they CONTINUE to dominate the division". if a good small market team goes on a win-streak, they say "and those pesky <a's, pirates etc> just wont go away!"
>> Anonymous
The marlins have always had a crappy Payroll, even when they won their World Series. I do not see why that should stop them now.

You don't follow baseball do you. This is what the Marlins fucking DO. This is how they won 2 World Series.

There 3 best pitchers have been out the whole year and just came back over the last week and a half.

lol at "got lucky". wtf does that even mean?

Wait where's the NL wildcard leader in your pic OP?

Because we all know huge payroll wins baseball games, right Tigers?

in baseball, small market teams get compensatory draft picks for losing free agents. i've always wondered if teams like the A's, Twins, Marlins, etc are just really smart with scouting or just get a ton of picks and luck out if one of them pans out.
>> Anonymous
>>228791

The Marlins and A's have some of the best front office in the league.

It is not a coincidence the Marlins have 2 rings in 10 years while it took the FAILSox 86 years and the Cubs are 00 years and counting.

The Twins are owned by a 92 year old billionare whos the richest owner in the league. why they choose to never spend money is beyond me.

and the new family who owns the Dodgers are not that rich ( in super rich guy terms) and just began to really spend money on Dodger Stadium and the team it's self.
>> Anonymous
>>228810

2 different owners. 2 different fire sales immediately after those titles.

Marlins could have had Manny, but their owners couldn't be arsed to put that revenue share money towards anything of worth. They'd rather pocket that Yank/Sox golds than improve their team.

This shit was posted before the downtime.

The small market welfare queens need to stop whining. The Twins have the money to compete, but they choose to draw welfare instead.
>> Anonymous
>>228810
and then the Marlins sell off their team when they do anything good
>> Anonymous
>>229138

the twins owner has the money but chooses not to spend it? well dont twins fans have the right to complain about that? or i guess you just want them to sit there and take it in the ass and have nothing to say about it.

>>228810

marlins had 2 rings in ten years? wow, thats almost as good as the red sox having 2 rings in 4 years, or the yankees having 4 rings in 5 years.

twins make more out of less
>> Anonymous
>>229166

You fail to even understand your own point.

New York and the Red Sox are some of the biggest franchises in the world.

The Marlins are not. And they still have done better then 3/4 teams in the league.

>>228953

That not true at all. The Pirates wanted to many ofthe Marlins prospects.

>>229159

And thats why many fans do not trust the team anymore and one of the reasons for the bad attendance. But that should slowly change now with the long term signing of the leagues future best player (Hanley)
>> Anonymous
>>229166

Most definitely have a right to complain when they build him a stadium and then they do nothing when they've got a chance to win the division. It also doesn't help when they put garbage like Carlos Gomez out in CF every night, and let him lead off most the season.

Anaheim is big market?
>> Anonymous
>>229205

When people say Anaheim, they really mean Orange County. Its one of the richest, whitest counties in America. And its only 30 miles away from downtown L.A. The only reason it isn't more popular because the Dodgers are still in town. If the Angels were the only team in the area, they'd draw Yankees like numbers.
>> Anonymous
>>229184

Or when they, you know, pretty much sell off any big star they get. Don't expect Morneau or Mauer to stay much longer, just like Johan and Papi did.

With David Ortiz the issue wasn't money. He was released by the Twins and only made $1.25 million his first year with Boston. The issue was that no one thought he was worth it because he hadn't lived up to the power numbers that had been expected of him. The Yankees looked at signing him but their GM didn't think he'd be able to hit for enough power. Of course, his lack of power was mostly the fault of Tom Kelly's managing. When he arrived in Boston he was asked why he was just trying to hit for singles. He'd told them it was what he was told to do in Minnesota, they told him to try and hit home runs. The new approach let him put up OPS+ numbers of 144, 145, 158, 161, 171 the next 5 years.

I guess you're new to baseball? Throughout much of the 2000's, the A's have been the top of the AL West and the Twins have been heavily favored to win the AL Central. On top of this, the Florida Marlins develop talent like a mother fucker and are probably on their way to a world series in the next year or so.

Boston is not the biggest market in the U.S. They're not even in the top 10.

There goes your theory, genius.

New England's a pretty big market though.
