Honestly, I agree and I think he has been the best or at least in the top 2 for several years.

Likewise. But I really don't think he's taken either; I've read that he weighed more in high school than he does now.

No seriously, the answer is Pujols though.

For this year? I got to look at a few different ways.
1. Getting on base.
AL: Dustin Pedroia. He leads MLB in hits; WTF?!? I must admit, he has a shot at the MVP for shit like that. [Insert sad face here]
NL: Albert Pujols. He has the best BA in MLB. He is also among the league leaders in hits despite missing 15 games.
Honorable mention: Chipper Jones. Missed more games (29, so far) than Pujols, and slightly trails (1 point) in the NL batting crown lead.

2. Power hitting.
AL: Josh Hamilton. Even with slump since Derby, still in top 5 for home runs and number 1 for RBIs in the AL.
NL: Ryan Howard. Leads the MLB in home runs and RBIs; however, can't do anything else. Introducing the new Adam Dunn, people.
Honorable mention: Manny. Only not at top for AL or NL for not spending whole year in one league.

3. Overall
AL: Justin Morneau. Gets slight edge over Hamilton in AL for having more hits, better BA, and less strikeouts.
NL: Pujols. Of the 36 people in the MLB who have hit 25 or more home runs so far this season, only Carlos Lee has struck out an equal or lower amount than Pujols; Pujols however has had roughly 100 more plate appearences then Lee. No one is better at swinging the bat at the right time than Pujols.
Honorable Mentions: Josh Hamilton, Lance Berkman and Manny.

I did too, till I saw he was 2nd in the AL in Home Runs, and 3rd in RBIs.

Sub .300 RISP average and strikes out an average of 120 times a year? Sub .300 overall average. .260 average with RISP and 2 outs?

Pujols is leagues ahead of Cabrera.

i hate the cardinals(along with the whole fucking city of st. louis), but i have to agree that pujols is without a doubt the most dominant hitter in the league and has been for many years now.

gotta give credit where credit is due i guess, even if it is to a cardinal X_x
