Pujols is the better defender over A-Rod. A-Rod's at best is only an above average defender at 3rd. Wright's a better defender, so is Zimmerman with the Nats. Evan Longoria, is better too.

There is no better defensive first baseman over Pujols, and the main reason Pujols is playing first base is due to his health. He was a great defender at 3rd, and at LF/RF.

A-Rod should have stayed at SS, but he couldn't even push Jeter out of the position.
>> HKK !h7MHU9L/Oo

I don't have the numbers in front of me, because they're tough to find and determine, but I know Pujols has a better range factor and zone rating than A-Rod.

OP is a jackass...howard strikes out a ton but lets not forget this was a down season for him. I think any team would take 48 home runs and 146 RBI's on their team in a bad year.

Howard- 105 Runs scored + 146 RBI's= 251 Runs Produced

Pujols- 100 Runs Scored + 116 RBI's= 216 Runs Produced.

Pujols is a better all around hitter most definitely, but Ryan Howard is the best run producer in baseball without question
>> HKK !h7MHU9L/Oo

That's not how run production is measured since it relies too much on the team around them. Runs Created is a far more accurate stat.

RBIs is a function of guys getting on base for Howard.

Who are better players getting on base. Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley, and Shane Victerino.

Or Aaron Miles, Adam Kennedy, Ceasar Ituzris, and David Eckstein.

Jesus Christ, its not even close. Put Pujols with the Phillies, and Pujols would have 250 RBIs, Put Howard on the Cards, and he'd be barely cracking 80. Its the same reason why Bonds was the best player for years, and didn't have a post 85-RBI season most years because his supporting cast were crap.

This is the exact same reason that the campaign for Carlos Delgado was retarded.
>> Anonymous
>>396400

Homers matter less in this offensive fuled game. If you're building a team, you always want the best player. Utley's just a better player, he's a better fielder, he's plays a more difficult position, he'll be cheaper, and he'll play more meaningful years of baseball. Ryan Howard's huge body has Ortiz written all over it, and he can't hit left handed pitching. The's guy's a future DH who should be platooned if he can't figure out how to hit lefties.

And you're right, Chase Utley can't hit 50 HR/150 RBIs. Because if you flip Utley and Howard's spot in the lineup, Utley's going to get 90 RBIs, due to Howard's low OPB. A good portion of Howard's OPB is gotten via the sac fly, which is okay I guess, but Ryan Howard is so great, why is he resorting to sac fly RBI's all the time?

Just for fun, Howard's monthly OPS numbers are .646 (.646! For a whole month! From a fucking first baseman! This is Corey Patterson .238 OBP bad!), .934, .726, .978, .791 and 1.274.

In fairness, Howard is actually about league average defensively. He has good range in both directions, he just has a weird tendency to mess up on shit hit right at him.

He wouldn't be a DH unless the team he was on had a quality defensive 1B in their starting lineup, like a Sean Casey or a Mark Teixeira.
>> Anonymous
>>396467

You must be new. This argument won Miguel Tejada the MVP over A-Rod when he was with Texas, among many other examples.

The MVP voters always put stock into how good the team is, and whether the player in question led his team to the post-season.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
>>396479

There's a reason I didn't address that half of his post.
>> Anonymous
>>396470

There's a bunch of ROY who are platoon, or ineffective players now. Angel Berroa for one, Todd Hollandsworth was another.

And you're right, Howard shouldn't be platooned... yet. But he has to show he can hit lefties, and while he did it for Sept. He's not doing it in the post season. Clayton Kershaw threw two fastballs down the middle on Howard, and he weakley grounded to first base. For all of Ryan Howard's Home run power, he hasn't hit a ball out of the infield yet in the NLCS yet. The pitchers against Howard's have adjuted to Howard's sudden ability to hit left handers in Sept, but Howard hasn't made a further adjustment yet, and that's killing him. No team is going to allow Howard to put up his career numbers against left handers up for long before they do best for the team, because the ultimate goal is to win baseball games and win championships, not to stroke the ego of any one player.

Just wait, Lidge is going to have Pujols flashbacks very shortly and blow a save. Someone is going to take him deep. Like fucking epicly deep.

That would have been Manny, but Lidge walked him to start the 9th.

Too bad the Astros still won the series. That homerun was pretty much useless.

He'll save it for the WS. Fucking B.J. Upton or Aki are going to go 450 ft. for the first time in their careers.

It ruined the Astros closer for the next year. Guess what happened that next year? The Cardinals won the World Series.

It made the Astros trade Lidge. Which was retarded.

I'm a Phillyfag and I think that Pujols should be the MVP. But given that sportswriters aren't a particularly smart bunch, Howard may very well take home the award. After all, the Conlins and Plaschkes of the world are taken with shiny, traditional counting stats like HR and RBI when rate stats and sabermetric counting stats paint a more accurate picture.

Kilgamayan's already pointed out Howard's inconsistency this year here:>>396465

Pujols has consistently great all year (and every year, come to think of it): Here are Pujols' monthly OPSes: 1.117, 1.160, 1.003, .978, 1.236, 1.130
His worst month was better than the best months of the vast majority of players in the MLB
.
He leads the MLB in VORP with 96.8 and BRAA with 82, which makes him 80+ runs more valuable than the average hitter. That's 8 wins above average from his bat alone. Did I mention that he plays plus defense?

Nobody is even close to equaling Pujols' value this year.

its funny how even though everything said here is 100 true, he still probably won;t win it because of the dumbfuck voters.

Yeah, it's an absolute sham that Howard will have more MVP awards than Albert Pujols by the end of this year.

you know who's the NL MVP? DAVID ECKSTEIN.
