I'm really not trolling, genuinely intrigued/ignorant.

I've watched a lot of baseball on late night tv here in the uk,.. and I cant really understand what is difficult about this sport? Like, what makes these guys worth millions of dollars? It might be a case of 'them being so good they make it look easy', but there is so little to the game that I dont understand how anyone cant just decide to be a major league star given a year of 'practice' or so.

Baseball is often sort of funny in this sense.

The average baseball player hits his peak at a much older age than the average football/basketball star. A top prospect at 20 or so is seldom ready to make an impact at the major league level -- even on a horrible team. The difference between even the AAA level and the MLB level is huge. It's totally a skill development sport.

op seriously gtfo your questions are retarded. There's an interesting tool that I recently stumbled upon called a search engine. Basically you go to a site like www.google.com and you search for what ever topic you are interested in (such as baseball). Once you're there you can click on the different links that seem good to you. Wikipedia is also nice since it will also show you the rules and a brief history of baseball. Quit being an ignorant eurofag obvious troll is obvious. No one is stupid enough to think that playing a professional sport takes no skill and that baseball players just swing the bat randomly.

I guess its comparable to all the countries in europe having their own leagues and then having like the champions league where the best teams from all the leagues play for an overall european cup.

well, thank you anon's for your educating. you guys definitely have a cool game. im still not so sure about the skill needed to be pro, but im definitely going to try to get more knowledgeable about it and get more into it.

anon out.

As the previous post said, a big reason for their being two leagues is historical. The National League was around before the American League, and there was (and in a sense there still is) a rivalry between the two leagues.

Also, the A.L. sucks because it uses the DH, which greatly diminishes the strategy aspect of the game.

an error is when a player (any defensive player) doesn't record an out during a play that is a given. an example of this is when an outfielder sets himself under a ball and lets the ball drop.
to op: if you wanna understand baseball at a deeper level i'd suggest to go to mlb.com and read a few of the articles that they publish and their vids, they usually explain the thinking behind everything. another good source for this is going to the mlb page in espn.

Play a baseball video game for a while. Seriously. It's how I got some understanding of soccer.

I am of the opinion that baseball is boring shit, but it's definitely not easy at professional level.

Fastballs are being thrown, curve balls, change ups. It gets pretty ridiculous to guess/follow the pitch, especially because the ball is invisible to the naked eye for the last portion of its trip to the plate. Yes. Invisible.
