Hey guys, I've caught more no-hitters in my career than anyone else ever AND I facepalmed A-Rod that one time.

Am I a great catcher or the greatest catcher?

Greatest of all time

i was talking about this with my dad (inb4 underage). it helps his hall of fame resume, still dunno if hed have enough to get in. maybe after another world series or 2 (if hes got the chance of course)

He doesn't hit enough for Hall. The standard is either 3000 hits or 500 hrs.

4 no hitters caught.
>>106824
doesn't always apply to a position like catcher.

Yeah but he has almost no fucking offense at all. You don't get into the hall for calling good games. Varitek has like 1000 hits and 150 hrs over his 10 years in the majors.

that's like automatically inducting the guy that snapped the ball to brett favre.

Pudge Rodriguez is probably the only active catcher that will make the hall (other than rookies like Geovany Soto that we have no data on).

yes, because the center tells farve what type of pass to throw and where to throw it.

are you special? that's the worst analogy i've ever heard.

Obviously knows nothing about baseball...

The catcher is responsible for scouting the opposing hitters, figuring out the best way to get each of them out for each of his pitchers.

In short, he does the thinking, the pitcher does the throwing.

Plus, theres the trash talking. Trash talking kicks ass.

catching 4 no hitters is good and all, but that's such a small sample size that you'd need to look at other data, such as the total ERA of pitchers when he's calling the game vs. when different catchers are calling for the same pitchers, etc.

>>106855

well then yeah, pretty much any guy that spends his career with the team and makes significant contributions deserves that.

>>106858

four no hitters doesn't prove that varitek is the best "thinker" though. it's more just an anomaly..

is that why yogi berra is second?

>>106875

Thing is, he is actually widely considered to be the best catcher in the game when it comes to that. He's not often brought up as an elite catcher though because he doesn't but up big or even above average numbers and doesn't gun down a lot of steals.

well, considering there are about 15 others with 3, and yogi played almost 20 years with the yankees, that's not really surprising.

4 no hitters caught.

And it would have been 5 if Schilling hadn't of shrugged off his call in the bottom of the ninth...

Come back and talk to me when you smash A-Rod's face in.

come back and talk to me when you have:
14 all star selections
10 gold glove awards
2 NL MVP's
Rookie of The Year Award
World Series MVP
among many others.

at this point, smashing a-rod's face in is insignificant.
special since he's the guy who faints at the sight of his owns son's birth.

asshat

All of those pale in comparison to the carnage Varitek wrought on A-Rod's mug. Try again.

Eh, I disagree about Cooperstown not enough offensive #'s, but he'll get into the Red Sox HOF easily and probably get his number retired if he ends his career in Boston.
