Spursfag here.

With only a short mention to the Lakers series, yeah bad calls were made but whatever. We're getting old and I know this was the steep end of the decline, we didn't play like we wanted the championship so we don't deserve it. We've gotten four in the past 9 years, that's pretty damn good I'm content with that considering only one other team in the league can even come close to matching that claim.

That having been said, Lakers, now that you've beaten us fairly or not regardless of how different people view it, do the world a favor and crush Boston. The world needs more 18-1, and while I personally have nothing against Garnett or Allen, Boston fans just need to be shut up.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'll actually be rooting for the Lakers.

pistonfag here.. also rooting for the lakers.

lakers are actually a pretty respectable bunch of guys. celtics are straight up niggers. posey/perkins/garnett/pierce... how could anyone like them?

General consensus is general.

No one wants Celtics to actually WIN, but forgive us if we were rooting against a spurs/pistons final.

Garnett cause he tries to help people. 21 houses in Katarina putting his sister through school even though he failed all his SATS (he tried)

Ray Ray aka Jesus Shuttleworth is a pretty nice dude too.

Pierce cause he's tough. Bitch got stabbed in his throat and still played that same night.

Fuck everyone else. Rondo looks like a nice guy though.

I think the spurs can actually be a championship team the next few years if they just got that one key player, but who knows what they'll do in the offseason

Can anyone explain to how the celtics, save for a situation where they blew a 3-0 series lead (which they will never come close to going up by that many games) can be comparable to 18-1?

ifeel like people think the celtics getting raped is somehow comparable to 18-1, which i think is an insult to 18-1...

hurrr. I went to high school at Churchill HS in the North East ISD, our rival school was Ronald Reagan HS. A lot of people hung out at the EZ's on 281 and Bitters. Through middle school, we got Battle of Flowers off because it seems to be a San Antonio specific holiday for whatever reason (mexicans). The Spurs used to play at the Alamodome before we moved to the SBC Center. Tower of the Americas is overrated, but I suppose you don't need a Spursfag to tell you that.
>> Anonymous
While Spurs cap space situation is favorable, they don't just need one young player to propel them as a possible powerhouse again, they need at least several under 30 players. If the past few years have been any indication, a strong bench is a necessity to win the O'Brien, and Spurs bench is very weak at the moment. Forget Horry, Bowen, or even Barry as I don't think he can maintain that kind of production for next year. I think Finley can still play for one other year, but he will need to stay on the bench instead of Manu by default. Udoka can easily replace Bowen if he's more consistent on his long bombs. The biggest headache for the Spurs is how they are going to find a young AND decent PG. Udrih didn't fit, and finding quality Point that's also young as well is very difficult.

it wouldn't be just the series alone, but all the hype around them in the beginning, to the final reg season record, and the up 3-0 in the finals before losing 4 straight would make it that much sweeter.
>> Anonymous
>>125749
Because 4channers are dumb and are trying to link them to 18-1 just because the Celtics are a Boston team.

There is no fail greater than 18-1, and the only thing that would have come close would have been the Celtics losing to the Hawks in 6.

because unlike the NFL, where seasons are a mere 19 games and the championship decided by a SINGLE game (which we know the Pats would have won if there was a series of some sort),

the NBA season is well over 70 games, with 3 grueling rounds of finals. Losing then, when you have unequivocally the best record in the league, would be monumental and incomparable failure, and would blow 18-1 out of the water.

alright think of it this way, you get two great players in the NBA, and your team is turned around and hyped up as the greatest ever, all these commercials and bullshit, and you finish the season with a hard to achieve record. You fight all postseason, and finally make it to the finals, and you're up 3-0, and the Lakers win 4 straight, WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN DONE. That IMO is right up there with 18-1.

that may be true, but 18-1 is so much more powerful because the 18 wins game consecutively.... with the grand finale being the ultimate 1 loss. there is no more epic failure greater than this. none. i challenge you to find one on a larger scale.

i still don't follow. i think eith 18-1, you get bostonfags. with the celtics shit, i dont think itll affect people at all. after the struggle to beat the hawks and cavs, i dunno, i think it just cant get close to 18-1.

Who cares? The Rockets had a 22 game win streak and then their guys started getting injured. Obviously no one considers it a big upset that the Rockets didn't end the season as 1st seed.

And considering the Pat's OPPONENT didn't have to amass a 18-0 record to face them, yet the championship was still decided by just a single game makes it less fail than a staggering entire 100+ game NBA season (counting playoffs) where a team with the best record in the league who has been sucked off since day 1 by commentators, coaches, tv personalities gets eliminated by just Kobe and a bunch of newbies.

The greatest irony about 18-1 is that two other teams in history went 18-1.

But they won championships. Mike Ditka is laughing away his extra pounds thinking of how his '85 Bears have a leg up on the Failtriots.

The Patriots had a chance at PERFECTION, against a supposedly weak team in a weak conference, and choked.

The celtics nearly lost to the hawks, nearly lost to the cavs, and are going to be raped by the lakers of the superior west

dont get me wrong, itll still be funny as hell, but it will never be 18-1, or anywhere close unless a 3-0 series lead is blown.
>> Anonymous
ya' but in the NFL it's one game, either a win or a loss, and some people thought the Giants could actually make it a close game due to week 16. In the NBA the Celtics finished with a hard to achieve record, and assuming they go up 3-0 in the finals before losing 4 straight, would be a greater collapse because for one, it's very difficult to win 4 straight games from behind against the #1 team in the league, and two, it's never been done before in any playoff series, let alone be it the finals

didnt the dallas mavericks finish with the same record and lose to the warriors?

not that hard to achieve. 18-1 is fucking hard to acheieve, and pretty hard to achieve without winning a superbowl.

yes, losing a championship in a LONGER season
having won MORE games
having a HIGHER PROBABILITY of victory

oh ya' it's not that hard to achieve because teams do it all the time.

ya' going 16-0 in the reg. season is hard to achieve. so is going 15-1 or 14-2. The point is, you have one bad game, you're out. But if you're up 3-0, being the #1 team in the NBA, with one win away, and you can't close it out and lose 4 straight, that's massive fuckin failure
>> Anonymous
>>125838

Superior? Boston had a better record. A better home record. A better road record. And they BEAT the lakers during the regular season.

So where are you getting this "superior" bullshit just because you beat the two worst teams in the playoffs and slipped by the wheezing old spurs with the officials' help?
>> Anonymous
>>125841
that was my original question, i said other than blowing a 3-0 series lead, how could it ever be comparable to 18-1.
>> Anonymous
>>125847
Yeah, when you get to face teams from the east as much as the celtics did, its pretty easy to reach 66 wins.
>> Anonymous
alright how about this: Let's assume the Pats and Giants played a 7 game series. It's safe to say that with the Pats success in 07-08, they will definitely win the series, with the Giants taking the first, 4-1. No way in hell the Giants would win the series.

Now assuming the Celts are up 3-0, before melting down one win away and losing the next 4 straight, mathematically, is greater than 18-1.
>> Anonymous
>>125882
ok again, i said not counting them choking a 3-0 series lead, how would it ever be comparable to 18-1?

im not just asking you, its been going around alot on /sp/ since the lakers made the finals and everyone said the celtics would too.
>> Anonymous
>>125883
?

Going ahead 3-0 would have to be the key element in even comparing it to 18-1. You take that away, and there's nothing comparable. That's the whole point of this comparable argument, the celtics success and going 3-0 before losing 4 straight. This is the only way you can compare it 18-1.
>> Anonymous
i think that already, you can't compare 18-1 and celtics losing a 3-0 lead. think about it: the pats hadn't really exhibited that much weakness or vulnerability prior to the superbowl (maybe the ravens game, but they still won it). essentially, pats were some motherfucking destructoteam bowling over their opponents, then they face the little ol giants from a weaker NFC, then lose to them.

that vs celtics going 7 games deep in series against the hawks and cavs, which obviously shows more weakness for the celtics. celtics just don't exhibit as much ruthless power/invulnerability/"can't touch this"-ness as the pats. 18-1 is forever.
>> Anonymous
>>126006
The Pats did show weakness later in the season, having almost lost to the Ravens, Eagles, Colts, Jets, and the Giants in week 16. Not to mention it was a close game with the Chargers in the playoffs until LT gave up.
>> Anonymous
>>126006
>18-1 is forever.

>> Anonymous
>>125809
Ha ha. "Choked"

They didn't choke, they got the shit dominated out of them on the line and Tom Brady got hit more than once.

It's hard to throw a ball when you're getting pressured every play. It's hard to do anything when your offensive line is dominated by a superior defensive line. This is called a war in the trenches. Those fat guys actually impact the game you know.
>> Anonymous
>>125880
celts went, what, something like 25-5 against the west?

>>125847
>So where are you getting this "superior" bullshit just because you beat the two worst teams in the playoffs and slipped by the wheezing old spurs with the officials' help?
>just because you beat the two worst teams in the playoffs
>the two worst teams in the playoffs

... neither the hawks nor cavs would have taken a series from the jazz, and i'm not sure that either of them could beat the nuggets (well, i KNOW the hawks would lose to enver, but lebron might be able to carry his kiddy-krew past them in 6 or 7). just because the celtics made them look awesome doesn't mean they didn't suck. it just means the celts played like shit.
