Calgary and Detroit for conference finals in the west.
Pens and..Flyers...maybe Carolina or Washington
Carey Price chokes, Montreal misses playoffs barely.

Detroit beat the whoever is in the East, due to the East suckage.

Biggest surprise?
1. Price choking and Montreal missing the playoffs but not low enough to get a good draft pick.

or

Dan Ellis and Nashville kick ass without Chris Mason holding them back and their young kids step up their game and push Nashville into a healthy playoff spot....maybe.

Pittsburgh will struggle to make the playoffs. They *will* get hit with injuries again, and they *will* regret investing so little in the majority of their team. Also, Malkin will have twice as many PIMs as points in the regular season.

>>389984
Dallas/Philly would go seven and end in over-time...if Philadelphia could ever go a season without being crippled by injuries.

Penguins may get injuries but I have my doubts they'll lose their franchise forward and #1 Goaltender for several weeks and months again.

calgary and edmonton aren't significantly better.

last year the entire nw division was 10 points apart, 5 wins in a season puts you from last place in your division to 3rd in the conference.
>> Anonymous
>>390639

True enough, but they both finished ahead of Vancouver, who in my mind, hasn't done anything spectacular in the off-season. Adding other team's castoffs doesn't make you that much better. That said, as long as Luongo's in net, they have hope, but that's about it.
>> Anonymous
The Canucks have just about become the what the Florida Panthers were back when they still had Luongo.

And that's just sad.
>> Anonymous
>>390643
vancouver needs a lot of things to fall into place for them to do well, but in reality they were 2 wins out of making the playoffs last year with 1 scoring line and most of their defence injured down the stretch.

im realistic, i dont think they're going to dominate but i think 7th or 8th is within grasp because the division is so tight.
>> Anonymous
>>390645
a team that sits at the top of their division for most of the year then fails down the stretch? that doesn't sound like the florida panthers.

Fixed. Vancouver's going to be fighting with Minnesota for the bottom of the NW division. If the Coyotes had started last season with Bryz they'd have probably gotten a top 8 spot.

Minny is basically the same team as last season and they got 3rd in the conference, now they're fighting for the bottom of the division?

Are you serious? You think Avs, Flames and Oilers got that much better?
>> Anonymous
>>390686
Edmonton and Calgary got better. Minnesota is missing two of it's biggest offensive threats. The Wild are still in the mix but they're going to rely a lot more on the other lines to start scoring.
>> Anonymous
>>390691
Calgary didn't get remarkably better, Oilers improved but were horrible last year, how much better could they be?

They have a sieve in net, and without the shootout they would have finished at LA King point-levels last year.

Being preseason predictions, I guess I have to go with the top two teams from last season.
3.Capitals
Lightning could be competitive if they get better on defense, but I see the Caps taking this.
4.Rangers/Flyers
5.Rangers/Flyers
Both should be pretty good teams, and have the talent to do well.
6.Devils
They always manage to squeak in.
7.Boston
If they're healthy, they could make it in.
8.Ottawa
They have the talent, they just need to be consistent.

Isles or Toronto for worst record
>> Anonymous
>>390220

Columbus has....a chance but too many teams to jump over, the west is just too competitive for them. It all depends if Leclair can have an encore of last season for them to MAYBE get in
>> Anonymous
While the positions in the standings may be different, I think the exact same set of teams from the East are going to the playoffs.
>> Anonymous
Bruins will be 5th or 6th in the conference. Don't sell them too short. Remember last year?

Pittsburgh is ever only good for a few seasons at a time.

If it isn't this year they're scraping the bottom of the division for high draft picks, it will be the next.
