2010 - Own The Podium
2008 - Owned By The Podium

At least we're winning softball against fucking TAIWAN. Christ. I'm secretly behind Australia.
>> Anonymous
At least you're not India. 1 billion people and 1 medal.
>> Anonymous
That's why I secretly support Oz. Last summer games they had roughly half of the US' medal count for less than 10% of the US' population. Athletically speaking Australia flat-out amazes me, there's no doubt in my mind that they're the best summer athletic country in the world.

Yet by medal count Ausfailia is 5th

In the run up to 2006 someone finally came to the mind-blowing conclusion that Canada was a winter-dominated country and geared their future olympic plans as such. For the winter games the national slogan is 'Own The Podium' - aggressive, definite-goaled, geared to win. For these summer games it's some shit like 'Strive For Excellence' - vague, celebrates participation over actually winning. Watching yet another summer games US/China medal blowout is boring as fuck anyway, I'm glad Canada finally has its head on straight for their olympic focus

and thats in shooting. there were more staff at that event than spectators.
>> Anonymous
>>238894
50 medals among 20 million people? That ratio is absolutely nuts, China and the US' ratios aren't anywhere close to that.
>> Anonymous
>>238895
But nobody in the world gives a fuck about the Winter Olympics. They're barely even an Olympics.
>> Anonymous

India: population: 1 billion, Olympic athletes: 57
Colombia: population: 44 million, Olympic athletes: 64
>> Anonymous
>>238905
Then why host the Winter Olympics in the first place?
>> Anonymous
FACT: Hungary has more medals than Australia. Hungary is ranked #9 while Australia is at #13
>> Anonymous
>>238912
Well, why host an Olympics at all? $$$

It's not as important as the Summer Olympics, though. Especially $$$-wise.
>> Anonymous
>>238857
Dude the Winter Olympics are worse than the Pan-Am games.

They held the Winter olympics in fucking Squaw valley. Have you ever even heard of Squaw Valley? I've been there, you could count their permanent residents on your hands, and maybe you might have to take off your shoes.

Great work, Niemeyer. Forfeiting a singles match you were winning so you could focus on the doubles was a great idea.
>> Anonymous
>>238925
Better Squaw Valley than the handful of Nazi and Commie regimes the summer games have gone to.
>> Anonymous
>>238936
What, America and England are communist or Nazi? They're the ones who usually host it.
>> Anonymous
>>238857
Why don't you join the EU and pretend you are at the top as well?
>> Anonymous
>>238938
Berlin? Moscow? BEIJING?
>> Anonymous
>>238940
Because geographically that makes absolutely no sense? Besides, artificially padding out a medal count would be worse.
>> Anonymous
>>238944
St. Louis, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.... again. And perhaps Chicago soon.

One country.
>> Anonymous
>>238940
Because Canada is not in Europe?

I suppose if Canada allowed itself to be a British territory again...
>> Anonymous
>>238955
That has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. Clearly reading comprehension wasn't your strong suit on the SATs.
>> Anonymous
>>238957
No, that's what the Commonwealth Games are for.
>> Anonymous
>>238946
If Greenland rejoins and Iceland joins, Canada is pretty close to the EU already, not to mention the close ties through the commonwealth.
>> Anonymous
>>238958
It does. I'd explain it to you but it's pretty self-explanatory. Perhaps you're quoting the wrong post.
>> Anonymous
>>238965
Iceland is in Europe and Greenland is a Danish territory.
>> Anonymous
>>238965
There's a single country in the entire EU that could be considered commonwealth, and that's only because it's the mother country. You might as well say that South Africa should be in the EU.
>> Anonymous
>>238936
But what about the 2014 games in Russia?
>> Anonymous
>>238968
I think you're the one misquoting here.

I state that the summer games have been handed off to Nazi/Commie bastards on a number of occasions, and cited off host cities to prove it.
You post various US host cities which has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the summer games have been handed off to Nazi/Commie bastards on a number of occasions, proving absolutely nothing that counters what I stated.

But those are blacks. Australia and New Zealand however could also work.

>>238970
But Greenland might become fully independant. And Iceland obviously lies on the border, it just belongs culturally to Europe but basically so does Canada.

Once in Nazi Germany. Once in USSR. Once in China. Four times in America.

Plus, to be honest, the IOC is not the America's-best-interest committee.
>> Anonymous
>>238989
I don't care how many times the US has hosted it, it dosen't hide the fact that the IOC has given the Games to authoritarian regimes. You seem to have this odd fascination with numbers as though that somehow makes historical facts nonexistent.
>> Anonymous
>>238987
Greenland is an iceberg with 50,000 people on it that is owned by a European state. Canada is not only on the North American continent, but they're already in stuff like NAFTA. Why not let the U.S. and Mexico in? They retain "European culture" about as much as Canada.
>> Anonymous
>>238994
You seem to think that 3 games in "bad countries" (and I'm not even going to go into how PRC is different than Nazi Germany and USSR) completely changes the fact that the Olympics usually ends up in either England or America over and over.
>> Anonymous
>>238944
You can't really count Berlin. The games were awarded because of the cancelled 1916 games. You could however count the award of the 1940 games to Tokyo.
>> Anonymous
>>239013
6 (7 if you count the upcoming 2012 games) out of 29 summer olympics isn't 'usually' by any stretch of the imagination. The very foundation of your 'argument' is faulty.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THE OLYMPICS HAS GONE TO BAD GUY COUNTRIES BEFORE

IT SHOULD GO TO AMERICA EVERY SECOND OLYMPIAD YEAR

WHY IS THE IOC AMERICA'S VILLAIN
>> Anonymous

The IOC hates freedom.

I think India just got its first gold ever
I don't know if they're proud, or ashamed
>> Anonymous
>>239740

they've won tonnes of golds; weightlifting and stuff

However I was surprised at how puny their 2008 team is, especially considering they brought about three times as many to Melbourne 2006
>> Anonymous
>>239751
Nope. The shooting one was their first individual gold.

They won shitloads for field hockey though
>> Anonymous
>>field hockey

No such thing. There is hockey and there is ice hockey.
>> Anonymous
>>240047
You bastard. Do you not want India to have ANYTHING?
>> Anonymous
>>240049

They'll come to be a dominator of the hockey sooner or later by dint of the population/wealth factor, but Australia's taking both hockey medals this Games.
>> Anonymous
TOGO won a medal and Canada hasn't
>> Anonymous
>>240098
FUCK YEAH TOGO
>> Anonymous
Canada's only hope is to make roller hockey a summer olympic sport.
>> Anonymous
Jesus, Canada. Do something.
>> Anonymous
DO SOMETHING!!!!!!!!!!!!
>> Anonymous
How the fuck does Canada not dominate at field hockey? It's just like Hockey, only without ice or skates
>> Anonymous
LOL Canada
>> Anonymous
>>238913
Hungary only has a silver medal in Beijing
>> Anonymous
>>240356
Yet they have around 60 more medals overall.
>> Anonymous
field hockey and ice hockey are totally different things...

and Canada has woman's soccer...
