We have Phillyfags.

We got Dodgerfags.

And we have the Red Soxfags.

...But Rays?

Are you the only Rays fan? Like, actually a Rays fan and not just rooting against the other three? One of these threads pops up every two days.

Protip: The Rays only have bandwagon fans.

Ok. Not OP, also not a Rays fan but I think we should cut there fans a break with the whole bandwagon thing.

They have had a shit franchise for years with terrible ownership.

Not only that, they are a young franchise, so it is not like they where raised with this team like some Yankee, Red Sox and other long time franchise fans.

This is there baseball team, and if they just became a fan this year, I dont blame them.

This.

I moved here in the summer of 2004. I learned to like the players and hate the ownership. When Sternberg bought the team he changed so much about the fan experience it pretty much begged for a second chance -- but the players on the field didn't.

His entire scheme has come together, albeit a year early. Tampa Bay fans were treated like shit by Naimoli (the previous owner) and it's hard to overcome grudges, especially when the vast majority of your local population is retired.

Football isn't really comparable to baseball. There are 10x as many home baseball games in a season as football games. You can justify a long drive/expensive ticket for football. It's less easy to do so for baseball, and for better or worse it's a long drive on any weeknight to get to Tropicana Field unless you live in Southern Pinellas county and the only people who live down there are retirees.

>>391425

Fuck, I lol'd.
>>391441

QFT. I bet the majority of faggots here don't realize how far out of the way Tropicana field really is. All the civilization is over in Tampa, and you have to drive an hour towards the gulf just to get to the ballpark.

They'll have higher attendance if they get a stadium in Tampa somewhere.

I think I'm the only person in texas who roots for the rangers....
>> Anonymous
>>391470

That's kind of unfair. It only takes an hour during weeknight games, because of rush hour traffic on the bridges. It's 30 minutes tops for a weekend or day game.

But, then, the vast majority of home games are weeknights so it's kind of moot to note that.

It's hard to call new Rays fans "bandwagon fans" since there were essentially none before.

People were saying the same shit about us last year. There's some truth to it, most people that aren't die-hard baseball fans won't start paying attention to a new team that sucks. No point to it for them.

Winning always brings bandwagoners, just the way it works. And sure, maybe most of them go away when your team starts to suck again. But if we managed to get a few more people interested in the team this year and add a few numbers to the real fanbase, awesome.

Enjoy your bandwagoners, Rays fans. I hope some of them stick around. And I hope you kick the everloving shit out of those Boston faggots.

Tampafag here. I've been a fan of the Rays since year one (before that, the Braves and Marlins, I was too young to settle for one.) I finally got to go to baseball games within an hour's drive.

Sure they were bad, but I remained confident that the [Devil] Rays would get better. The Diamondbacks (the other new team) beating the Yankees in '01 solidified those beliefs.

I wasn't expecting to wait another 7 years, but holy shit it's our first winning season, 90 win season, playoff berth, AND AL East title after not winning for than 70 games in a single season for a decade. It's kind of a big deal, so plenty of Floridians are going to strongly support the Rays now that the Rays are worth supporting. I mean, they were a laughingstock for a while, now all of a sudden they can go to the World Series and then maybe even WIN it. Worst to first? It's possible.

Of course NOW I'm worried about the Rays. I serisouly don't think that the Rays can win this series, but this season they've surprised in more ways than one, so I'll take the Rays in 7.

That's not true, I'm a brandonfag and it took over an hour to get to the last sunday game i went to.
>>391470
They should buy up the land that legends field is on, tear it down, and build a stadium there. they could even use RJ's Parking lots.

that's funny, usually traffic is backed up going northbound into tampa. while southbound looks pretty smooth. yeah lets make going to tampa and going onto dale mabry even more of a pain in the ass. fuck that..

You guys have only won 5, I think it's 5, playoff series in your 100+ year history.

Also from the same area. The thing with Legends field would never work because on the off-hand chance that the Bucs and Rays play together, it'd be a complete nightmare traffic-wise when either game is going on.

Plus, they just renamed that field after Steinbrenner, so it's not going anywhere for awhile.

Been to two games myself since they were created. Really wish I had gotten that foul ball from McGriff before he retired, but oh well.
