midweek college football Anonymous
Do we really need this? Somebody made a point in an SI column that Louisville, for example, has only played one Saturday game in five weeks so far this season.

I realize that it's their own fault for agreeing to such a retarded schedule. The larger question here is why schools accept that killing their weekly routine is validated by having a game air on ESPN5.

Pic kinda related; I'd rather spend Thursdays watching The Office.

Conference games are mandated by the league office. So any Big East weeknight games (which are most of them) Louisville can't do anything about.

A lot of teams though dont mind the exchange and sacrifice of taking the percieved hit of a midweek game.

It achieves two MAJOR things for any low to mid tier football club. You get national exposure to your college and ball club that would normally be overlooked by the one or two "marquee" teams that also play in your recruiting area. Also, it gives regarded players expanded options in which school they want to go to. They will see an immediate chance to play at Louisville, or be stuck in 2nd or 3rd, sometimes even 4th string at a major school and only get one year to play.

Not necessarily a MASSIVE boon for Louisville, but for teams like Memphis, Central Michigan, Marshall (who has really had every thursday game so far this season, or so it seems.) and those others its a massive win with a minor give away in not having a Saturday game.
