Spring Training thread. Explain how your team will be the best then eventually choke it away in August.

Pic related, as you'll be seeing it on the field in November as Brandon Webb hoists the Commissioners' Trophy.

will spend 5 billion dollars on stealing all-star players just to choke in the first round of the playoffs again.

being the best before choking at the last minute?
Go Redbirds, woooooooo!

Lack of offense truly starts to hurt when the pitching falls apart at the end of the season.

>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA

I seriously doubt they'll make the playoffs. I don't think the Steinbrenner kids have what it takes to put a playoff club on the field.

Giant's will be the best at being worst at every offensive catagory, that's gotta count for somethin lolz.

You'll be looking up at us and the Dodgers all season. Grab a Snickers.

Mets fan here. Pedro and El Duque will both get injured again, killing the pitching rotation. Santana will be like everyone else in their first season in NY and play mediocre. Alou and Delgado will be hurt most of the year. Church won't be nearly as good a player as Green was for the last season and a half. Should I continue?

>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA

I disagree. Pedro and Santana will give Webb and Haren a run for the best one-two punch in baseball, until August when Pedro forgets where the strike zone is and they suddenly tank, letting the Phils take the pennant out from under them.

9/10, I lol'd.

I could see the Padres looking up at the D-Backs (and even the Rockies), but the Dodgers? Dodgers have a lot to prove. They have had the talent the last few years to win the division, and yet the Padres seem to beat them out. I'll believe it when I see it.

Regardless though, it's gonna be one hell of a season in the NL West.

My team is the Cubs.

Two words: Joe Torre.
>> Anonymous
>>5535
You realize Torre was a hack for the Cardinals before he moved to NYC
>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA
>>5538

Managing the Yankees taught him how to win with overpaid, undertalented personnel. Imagine how he'll perform with the Dodgers roster. I'm a little concerned, but I'm confident enough in my D-Backs to rest easy. Sort of.
>> Anonymous
>>5538

Exactly. He happened to get lucky by having an owner who would spend enough money to buy the earth and all of the heavens to get the best players on his team. Let us see what happens now with the Dodgers, will he be a success like he was in New York, or will he be a failure like he was in St. Louis?
>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA
>>5547

Well, either way, the D-Backs are getting the NL West pennant. We brought back the core of the team (minus Papa Grande, which sucks), brought on a major badass in Dan Haren, and got the Unit back and (somewhat) healthy. Rumor has it he's even growing a mullet again.

Will we ever post a better record than the Red Sox and Yankees?
Will we ever see the light of the playoffs again? Will the team win the world series for a 3rd time?

Stay tuned.

Losing Valverde isn't so bad. He was spot-on last season, but we've seen him be just as erratic. He was like Matt Mantei, but less frequently injured. It sounds odd, but the most consistent and overpowering Closer the D-Backs ever had was Byung-Hyun Kim.
>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA
>>5607

BK pretty much left everything he had on the field in his first stint with the D-Backs. His second stint, well... I watched that game, and I knew he was gone.

Red Sox gonna win. You gonna get raped. ^^
>> thetruth !!aGXBnMVTlN3

BY Kim is the worst closer ever. He likes to give up homeruns in the world series... multiple times in the same situation.

OP, fallen off any DDR machines lately?

YOU OLD FATTY
>> Anonymous
I'm just sad because Valverde was so damn entertaining to watch. Oh well, we're still going to kick ass without him.
>> Anonymous
Valverde wasn't that great, though. He was decent, but not worth big money. They got great stuff for him, it was an excellent deal for the DBacks. Can't argue with Qualls and Burke, no comparison.

General rule is that you should always try to trade away a hot closer when you can(in the offseason) because his trade value will never be higher and they'll likely won't match their performance next year.
>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA
>>5974

Also, Brandon Lyon was the REAL power in the bullpen.
>> Anonymous
>>6003
Absolutely. Now Lyon should have his chance to shine (Of course, it's like his fifth chance, but we'll see where it goes).

The season's already over before it began.

Ultimately, we'll come to realize how shitty our offense and bullpen are, and probably re-acquire Bonds midseason, and we'll see the beaming grin of his gorilla-face as he laughs at us for being so naive, and he will hit 40 HRs in the second half of the season, bringing us to a reasonable 72-90.
>> Anonymous
>>6092
Seconded, except Sabian is not smart enough to sign decent ballplayers even in mid season. Don't be surprised to see attendance decline this season since there is a chance they will win less games then the 49ers
>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA
>>6121

Damn, that's a bold statement.
>> GOOBERJOOVIES !h1I8KzYeUU
>>6121

As a disgruntled Giants fan, I wouldn't be surprised if this occurred. We're certainly on track for a debacle of that proportion.

At least the stadium won't be so packed. Maybe they'll cut ticket prices. Hey, one can hope.
>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA
>>6144

Well, at least you know that you don't belong in the divison pennant race.

I wonder which team will have more wins, A's or Giants?
>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA
>>6187

A's, by at least 30.
>> GOOBERJOOVIES !h1I8KzYeUU
>>6181

Yeh, that I do.

As for>>6187, I would guess the A's having a 20 to 30 win advantage over us, but I'm not confident in Oakland's ability to finish above .500

Maybe a little under, maybe dead even, but not over.

I'm probably going to spend the season listening to my hometown Fremontfags parade their slightly less mediocre team around whilst I ponder becoming An Hero before the All-Star Break.
>> Red Machine D !h1LZxECEVA
>>6209

Can we just wipe Fremont off the map? Please?
>> GOOBERJOOVIES !h1I8KzYeUU
>>6216

Lol. Gimme a chance to GTFO of this place. This place is so sickening, I'm game for any plans to make Fremont non-existant.

And while we're at it, let's include gang-riddled Union City. Newark gets to stay, though.

bomb the shit out of oakland and bomb twice east oakland and hayward. the ghetto is getting closer and closer.

also the 49ers and the raiders combine will have a better record than the giants.
