Congratulations to the 2008 Boston Celtics. They've earned the title tonight, and it's great to see them go from worst to first. The Lakers played hard but slacked off at the worst possible time in Game 6. It's a shame, but they still are a great franchise.

Basketball and football are two completely different sports. Why is everyone trying to connect this to the New England Patriots? On the subject though, the Patriots were totally unstoppable this season, and played hard in the Super Bowl. They were stopped however by a very tough Giants team. Congratulations to the New York Giants for not being intimidated and pulling off the great upset. The Patriots are a great team as well, and should be heralded for their amazing 17-0 start, an NFL record.

All 4 teams previously mentioned deserve to be recognized as great teams. Win or lose; they all made it to the Championship game, and that in itself is a stellar achievement. My hats off to all 4 organizations.

I believe it's vastly unfair to judge the Patriots based on one loss. The Giants did indeed outplay them in a very good Super Bowl game but starting 17-0 is nothing to sneeze at.

grats to celtics, good job.

patsfags,
this doesn't release you from 18-1, if you go fucking 16-0 in the regular season, you have to win the super bowl for it not to be considered a gigantic failure, the only way the patriots will ever live down 18-1 is going 16-0 again then finishing at 19-0.

going 14-2, 13-3, 12-4, 11-5 etc. can get a "good season guys, we have it next year" 16-0 without a super bowl victory is a failure.

losing the super bowl on an undefeated season is a very fair judgment to call them failures.
BECAUSE THEY WERE.

I agree, the loss in the Super Bowl was vastly disappointing for Patriots fans but at the same time, they can relish the fact that they become the only team to ever go 16-0, a feat that had never been accomplished before, in what was perhaps the greatest regular season a NFL team has ever had.

But once again, I agree. The Super Bowl loss really takes away from the splendor of being a 16-0 team.

Notice my past tense, I probably should have phrased it slightly better though. Something along the lines of: The Patriots were unstoppable this season UNTIL they were stopped by a very tough Giants team.
