Madden 2009 Impressions Jet Favre
I have been playing madden 2009 for the 360 since Thursday (got it early). So I will spill some early impressions for the /sp/ort vidya gamers.

First off I have always an avid fan of 2k5, still am, it did things that madden has yet to accomplish and did things better. With that said and the fact that the last few games released were trash, madden 08 included, I must say that madden 2009 is doing things better.

The Madden franchise for the first time since hell 2002 is fun to play. I don't understand how they have accomplished this, very little appears to be changed, but the gameplay plays better.

The presentation has been bumped up, while Tom Hamond sounds robotic in his play by play calls, Chris Collinsworth actully does a pretty good job. The replays can be choppy at times, but at least they do them this year. Stat overlays pop up every once and a while. The pre-game show, halftime show, and post game show suck, to say the least. No mentions of player of the game, or any kind of analysis at all.

This ain't /v/, bitch. We talk about actual sports here.

I don't think you have Madden 09, enjoy having sex with your hand.

The graphics have taken quite a leap in lighting and texture work. Weather looks really good, rainy games on grass field will lead to extremely muddy, dirty players. Snow storms on the blizzard setting hardly seem blizzardy. I shouldn't be able to still see the nubers and logos on the field, yet still do.

Player models, while improved, could still be a lot better. I cannot quite put my finger on it, but they have this stumped dwarf look to them, where they should seem more lengthy and tall. The feet are definitely disproportionate and seem a lot larger then they should be, scale wise. The football itself also seems to big compared to the players. Hopefully next year they scale it down, because Ncaa 2008 had this problem and it was addressed in 09.

The grass looks somewhat cheap, while I admire the attempt, distinguishing turf from grass is not easy, some fields look wrong, for example the cowboys stadium and the vikings turf look like grass when they shouldn't. Even the grass looks weird, as if they tried to over texture it.

On to the animations, while improved could take some lessons STILL from looking at 2k5's animation and physics system, as well as ball physics on tipped balls and deflections. Work really needs to be done on quarterback animations especially. Drop backs look silly, arm motions and releases look awkward, and throwing on the run isn't very accurate. Even sitting in the pocket and foot shuffling is off. Tackle animations also could be redone. For example you still see some hits where the carrier will just fall over as if being shot.

PROTIP: The computer plays up or down to your skill level. It wont outright let you win and it wont outright beat your ass. This is why it seems fun.

Your argument might be valid if I wasn't playing on DEFAULT ALL-MADDEN.

Try again.

The thing I hate about sports games these days is that the programmers downgrade your ability to make plays to keep the scoring in-line with the scoring for real games. It's bullshit. Let me use my 3rd person God-view to find lanes and juke the shit out of motherfuckers and rack up 200 points. Don't slow everything down and make my running back fall from the touch of a butterfly. Dicks.

Luckily hockey games don't have this problem.

Maddenfags can't get enough of delicious Blitz.

Onto gameplay. As I said in my opening post, the game is a lot more fun all around, but still has the occasional annoyances.

For example the Computer AI has some ridiculous skills, even QBs like rax grissman can be deadly accurate even when pressured. They also always seem to know when the blitz are coming and where they are coming from. They can get it off before you hit them, and even if you hit them they can get off perfectly accurate throws to receivers. I guess what I am getting at is the AI QBs completion %s are too high because of their lack to throw any errant throws, including overthrows, under throws, wide throws, etc.

Also while playing defense your DBs always seem to be slacking well behind the receivers and always out of position. This can lead to some easy passes, as if the AI QB needed it anyways with the way it can pinpoint anything.

On offense passing can be a breeze once you get the hang of it. However there are occasions when the AI DBs and even LBs can make some ridiculous plays on the ball, whether they just swat it down or pick it off. They seem to get sudden burst of speed to do so, and seem to know when the ball is released, so they can lose any momentum they had going one way, just to make super human abilties to come back and make a play on the ball.

The running game is pretty solid and really makes you work to hit the holes off of blocks and make little jukes and moves to beat defenders. The only problems I have with running is that when you hit holes sometimes the defender next to you who was being blocked pretty good can disengage the blocker insanely quick and "suck" you into his tackle animation. This doesn't happen a lot, but it does happen and can be frustrating when you think you see daylight to only be sucked into a tackle animation.

Final post

All in all though even with the complaints I mentioned the game is fun to play, which I pointed out in the first post is not something this franchise has done right in years.

This has always been true. If you aren't playing the d-back yourself, they almost always blow their coverage.

The thing though with this however is the fact that the new "action camera" cuts your view off from the sides somewhat, so its hard to switch to the appropriate DB to make a play on the ball. The classic camera can still be used, but the new one is so much nicer for certain other things. It also doesn't help that even if you have time to switch to the DB, the AI QB will get the ball right in there easy.

i didnt say anything about pasta. i was the one that said you watched the x-play special. faggot. quit be so butthurt. there's like 4 people on this board that cares about madden

Chances are it was your playcall and not the AI, especially if you're blaming the camera because "its hard to switch to the appropriate DB"

Besides rosters and slight graphics upgrades I can't really tell the difference between this year and last year's Jewden game.

Read around places that care about Madden, everyone who has this game is mentioning the qb problem.

I do like sport video games, but niggers and wiggers are buying this game.

That stops you from buying a game?

I like Grand Theft Auto, but niggers are buying it so I didn't get GTA4.
I like Gran Turismo, but weeaboos are buying it so I didn't get GT5Prologue.
I like Call of Duty but mexicans are buying it so I didn't get CoD5.

ops should be cod4 :/
>> Anonymous
>>238462
And this makes it less likely that they're blaming the game for their own suck how? Any half-decent player will play just as well as any "broken" AI driven quarterback.

So the very next game for all of those seasons was a loss.

i stopped reading here, saxy raxy is the greatest QB in NFL history son, don't you know football?

This is going to seem like a gay complaint, but I think the presentation is severely lacking in 09.

I liked in the last 2 Maddens in the roster screen the players and the team logos where all "glowing" and it really seemed "next gen".

In this Madden the roster screen looks like 05 for PS2.

Thought?

Oh fuck, one of the team got broke and had to relocate to Mexico city, they were previously named the New York Jets, now they are called the Mexico City Commandos.

All they have is practice mode and "virtual trainer". The tron looking mode.

They ruined Franchise in 08 and didn't fix it this year. Player progression, the single most important aspect of Franchise, doesn't work at all. Add in the tons of other glitches and you have a miserable game play experience.
