The funny thing is Al Davis actually thinks like this
>> Anonymous
Remember, the Raiders actually went to the Super Bowl 6 years ago. What the fuck happened?
>> Anonymous
Did Gallery ever really pan out? I don't hear much about him and he was one of their high draft picks a few years ago.
>> Anonymous
>>373175
He sucked at the position that he was drafted for but he got put into a different position and now he's okay. Not great, but okay.
>> Anonymous
>>373175

Not really. He's OK I guess. I think the real problem there is that one guy isn't going to make your line great so he looks worse than he is. The guy is a monster.
>> Anonymous
>>373172
something about a tuck rule.
>> Anonymous
>>373175

He's starting at left guard. He never did make it as left tackle though. Still a bust since left tackle is much more important than left guard is.
>> Anonymous
They drafted a left tackle in the third round of last years draft. He did pretty well starting when Kwame Harris got hurt.
As for the defensive line, the guys they have aren't too bad when they manage to stay healthy.
>> Anonymous
>>373186
I read an article that said he could make it to the pro bowl as a left guard. He's still a bust because you don't draft guards with the number two overall pick in the draft.
>> Anonymous
>>373188

That's the thing. Your defensive line needs depth for sure. If you're thin at the position you need more. Fuck getting McFaggot as your first pick. Get a stout D-lineman or a big tackle. Those are the type of picks a rebuilding team needs, not flashy garbage.
>> Anonymous
If Russel can develop into a quality QB they might be able to get their shit together. McFadden looks like he could be a spectacular back in a few years.

Russels almost as overrated as Leinart

Enough of this "ZoMG THROW BALL 80 YARDS ON KNEES UNLEASH THE FuCKiNG DRAGOOOONN!!!!11" QB Trend

IT DOESN'T FUCKING WORK

HEY WHEN WAS THE ALST FUCKING BLACK QB TO COME OUT OF COLLEGE AND BE A SUCCESS?????

TELL ME?
>> Anonymous
>>373194
They got McFadden because they needed a guy who could make big plays on offense. Fargas is good but he's not really explosive.
Also, I think they wanted McFadden to help protect Jamarcus, the thought being that a good running game would take some of the pressure off of the young quarterback.

Brett Favre is a god
He also has great wide receivers

You know what will protect an QB? An actual offensive line. And if you want a running back to protect a QB, you don't use McFadden who is explosive. You'd use a guy like Fargas who can carry the ball 30 times in a game.

>>373209

Let's see,

There's Trent Edwards, Philip Rivers, Eli Manning, Jay Cutler, Kyle Orton, Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, Aaron Rodgers

Then we've got fucking Tarvaris Jackson, JaMarcus Russell, Jason Campbell, Vince Young

LoL

Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco have done fucking more than Jamarco and Tarvaris

The only blackie who has a chance of being halfway decent is Campbell, and I said HALFWAY DECENT

'big plays'

Nice buzz phrase. Here's a hint: when the team is bad you fix the internals first before you add skill players.

What the Raiders have effectively done is add a turbo charger to a car with bad oil seals and bent valves.

>>373235
Why not get McFadden if he is available. I know they need to fix their internals and this is where it becomes crucial to have good scouts because you can usually pick up quality players in the later rounds of the draft. Look at what the Giants did in 07 with their rookies.
>> Anonymous
>>373232
Russell will have a Culpepper type career, put up great numbers for a few seasons then go journeyman. Such a waste of talent but he just doesn't seem to have that spark. He's smart with his throws though, the only pick so far was one that bounced off his receiver, look for them to open up the offense for him.
>> Anonymous
>>373227
>And if you want a running back to protect a QB, you don't use McFadden who is explosive. You'd use a guy like Fargas who can carry the ball 30 times in a game.
This post doesn't make any sense. What makes you think Fargas can handle carrying it 30 times a game week in week out? Why would you prefer a back who will never make a big run to one who can score on any given play?
>Here's a hint: when the team is bad you fix the internals first before you add skill players.
The Raiders were one of the top teams running the ball last year. They also spent a third round pick on a left tackle in last years draft. The top offensive tackle in this years draft was taken before the Raiders drafted. There is only so much you can do in one year.
>> Anonymous
>>373243
funny, I heard Davis offered the job to Bubb Rubb but he turned it down
>> Anonymous
>>373256

Because even with excellent scouts it's still a crap shoot. Fuck, the same can be said about position players! How many excellent running backs have been taken in the latter rounds in recent years? Or do they just look good because they play behind good lines? ;)
>> Anonymous
>>373259

I'm not convinced they've addressed the lines because they took a tackle in the 3rd round last year. If anything that seems like they're ignoring it.
>> Anonymous
I like how everyone is predicting what type of career Jamarcus will have after only a few games. At least give him a year, guys.
>> Anonymous
>>373266
I think the drafting of Robert Gallery and Jake Grove has left Davis gun shy when it comes to drafting offensive linemen.
>> Anonymous
>>373257

The reason why Russell only has one pick is because Kiffin doesn't trust him to throw, and is making sure he's ultra conservative with the ball. If they 'open' up the offense for Russell, expect his INT totals to skyrocket. There was a reason why Kiffin was handling Russell with kid gloves, he's not the most developed QB by a long shot.
>> Anonymous
>>373257
The funny thing is, Culpepper was surrounded by good players, and had a Randy Moss to throw to. Where is Russell's Randy Moss?
>> Anonymous
>>373271

Yeah I suspect the same. Maybe they need better line coaches (or coaches in general). If the talent is there it needs to be coached.
>> Anonymous
>>373275
Tom Cable (the Raiders offensive line coach) helped improve the line exponentially when he joined the team. They could use better talent on the o-line but unfortunately the real world isn't Madden where you can go out and magically create a great line.
>> Anonymous
Yeah, Cable's a quality coach.(He used to work at USC and UCLA). The ironic thing is that Kiffin used his USC connections to bring Cable with him to the Raiders.
>> Anonymous
>>373289

That's what I've been saying, though. Instead of worrying about getting guys like Russel and McFadden with these high picks, why not get some REAL young talent on these lines? You wouldn't even have to use the top-5 picks for it, you could trade out of them and get a couple picks.

Instead, they stick with what they had there and broke the bank of flashy crap. It's retarded.
>> Anonymous
Also, Tom Cable is 44. That's another young head coach Al Davis has just put in place. He's doing the same thing again.
>> Anonymous
>>373262
I can really only think of a few backs in recent years that have been drafted low and still turned out to be really productive... Brandon Jacobs, Matt Forte, Frank Gore, Marion Barber.
>> Anonymous
>>373312

Ryan Grant, Darren Sproles, Brian Westbrook
>> Anonymous
>>373316
>really productive
>Ryan Grant

I've give you Darren Sproles only because he's been a ST superstar for more than one year.
>> Anonymous
>>373316
Ryan Grant was undrafted thats why I didn't include him. Plus he hasn't done shit this year. Might be one of those "Oh I got my contract now I don't really have anything to play for" niggers or could be injuries. He did miss training camp and has been banged up this year.

OK fair enough. Point is that you can get great value at RB in later rounds. I guess I just tend to really put a premium on good physical young talent on your lines.

>> Anonymous

Teams don't like to trade with the Raiders.
>> Anonymous
>>373332
You would win.
>> Anonymous
>>373334
Also, it's hard to trade down and get equal for value in return for any team. Add in the fact that teams don't like to trade with Al Davis then trading down becomes really problematic. Again, this is the Madden video game where you can magically make things happen.

Fair trade...whatever.

You mean you couldn't get a lower first rounder and a 2nd or 3rd? Just because it's Al Davis?
>> Anonymous
>>373366
Are you saying you would trade a top five pick for a low first rounder and a second? That's not a fair trade.
>> Anonymous
>>373369

With what unproven rookies make in the top-5? Hell yes I would. A rebuilding team could fuck their cap up with a top-5 bust and set themselves back years.

Or, fuck it. Keep the top-5 pick and select a lineman. They tend to be safer picks anyway, save for Gallery.

Two drafts ago:
1. JaMarcus Russell
2. Zach Miller

What I wanted:
1. Calvin Johnson
2. Trent Edwards

I'm a better drafter than Al Davis.
>> Anonymous
>>373388
Getting lucky on a couple of pics makes you a better drafter than someone who's picked hall of famers like Art Shell, Gene Upshaw, Howie Long, etc.?
>> Anonymous
They should have taken Joe Thomas and this year draft Matt Ryan. They worst thing the Raiders done so far was signing DeAngelo Hall and Jevon Walker.
>> HKK !h7MHU9L/Oo
>>373401

They should have drafted Joe Thomas, that much is for sure. Even going into that draft that was my thought. That line was and is so horrible that not drafting him was retarded. As for Ryan, he was gone by the time they picked this year. However, trading back for Flacco could have worked.
>> Anonymous
>>373388
Trent Edwards isn't going anywhere with his career. The Bills are a FLUKE so far. Period.

Calvin Johnson is incredible, I admit, but Zach Miller is a solid tight end which is something the raiders DESPERATELY needed, a tight end who can block AND catch, which we havent had for a long time.

Al Davis would out-draft the shit outta you.
