Are there more of these, or did you just make a sly comment on Lee's small Cy Young chance?

If Cliff doesn't win the Cy, I feel for you /cle/fag.

Jason Schmidt lost out to Eric Gagne in '03, and I raaaaaged.

I'm on the fence, Krod deserves it but he got a ton of saves on an excellent team. Lee deserves it because he got a fuckton of wins on an excellent team. Both are poor ways to judge of a pitcher. They both have excellent stats outside of Wins and Saves.

Whoever wins it, deserves it though. Krod's campaign may be the greatest closer performance in years, same with Lee.

You mean a fuckton of wins on a shitty team.
A team under .500 is not excellent, no matter how you look at it.

I did mean shitty. That's what makes it notable.

I noticed who you used in that pic there. Trying to imply something, Clefag?

Closers are nothing. Speaking as a Seattle fan who has watched 2 of them turn to shit as soon as their team does (Kaz Sasaki and JJ Putz) the starter fucking deserves it.
>> Cleveland Fag !AVztAjVxGg
>>343873

No. I just like using that picture at groan-worthy moments.

Reds are shitty, though.

No it hasn't. There have been a handful of better relievers in the AL this year, they just aren't the ninth inning guy on a team with excellent starting pitching but an offense that can't pull away from anyone.
>> Cleveland Fag !AVztAjVxGg
>>343897

Find me another reliever that has a decent amount of IP and stats as good as Frankie.

Fuck saves.

And before anyone asks for someone better, I'll give them a guy with a 1.53 ERA, a fucking 0.69 WHIP (stats like this give credence to the idea that 4chan needs bold tags) and is 36/37 in save opportunities.

Not to mention someone that has actually been brought in BEFORE the 9th inning and has pitched more innings than made appearanaces.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
Oh, well, there you go.

Superior reliever presented.

Fuck. I did not know this.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE

I'm sure you're not the only one here.

It figures that the one year the spotlight is OFF the Yankees is the one year one of its players deserves it.
>> Cleveland Fag !AVztAjVxGg
>>343925

I didn't realize Rivera was doing that well this year. I figured he was still quality, but fuck all his stats are comparable and actually better than K-Rods.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
>>343931

Whenever someone in baseball gets what looks like undue hype over a stupid stat I make it my business to go out and investigate to see if their performance is really deserving of the attention in comparison to other players at their position. I almost had an aneurysm when Bartolo Colon stole the 2005 Cy Young from Johan Santana, but that's besides the point.

K-Rod's stats are certainly by no means bad, but there are plenty of other relievers out there that have had better years. I've already gone over Mo, so...

2.11 ERA, 0.92 WHIP - This belongs to Jonathan Papelbon.
1.68 ERA, 0.84 WHIP - As a /cle/fag, I hope you recognize Joakim Soria's line.
1.47 ERA, 0.96 WHIP - Even if Soria is still a stranger, I'm sure you know of Joe Nathan.
0.50 ERA, 1.04 WHIP - He hasn't been closing all season, but Brad Ziegler's given up THREE EARNED RUNS in 54 IP.
1.58 ERA, 0.92 WHIP - No more than a part-time closer, but Grant Balfour's had a hell of a rebounding year.
2.36 ERA, 1.17 WHIP - As has teammate J.P. Howell. Bear in mind that these numbers are over 84 IP.
1.78 ERA, 1.15 WHIP - Attentionless Scott Downs of the Blue Jays. 70.2 IP for him.
1.33 ERA, 1.02 WHIP - K-Rod's arguably not even the best reliever on his own team: where's the love for Jose Arredondo?

This is why the Angels will do what they did in 05: Let their closer go, and replace him with someone better from their own bullpen.

Besides, considering they have this guy to replace K-Rod, it's more likely they will go after other people in the free agent market this winter.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE

I imagine that Shields will be the closer if/when K-Rod walks away. At the very least, he'll be given first dibs.
>> Anonymous
Speaking of Cliff Lee, he gave up a run in the 1st to the Twins.

Win #23 on the line tonight.
>> Anonymous
>>343983
Speaking of Scott Downs (I'm a Jays fan) He let in 5 runs in his last two appearances, which bloated his era from an astounding 1.17 to 1.78.

Boy does he deserve it. Playing on a shitty team like the Giants? The only person I feel worse for is Johan Santana and his team with SBPS (Shitty Bull Pen Syndrome).

Oh lol sup guys, I only have 8 CGs, 2 shutouts, more strikeouts than Lee, and 2nd best ERA in the AL.

Too bad the committee only cares about wins.

Since, you know, it's the best judge of a pitchers worth.

So, so, so true. I wish there was no save stat either. Also, watch holds get blown the fuck up.

Oh hi your ERA+ of 155 is still drawfed by Cliff Lee's 187.
