Bad sportsmanship Anonymous
Lets have a bad sportsmanship thread! Tell your stories about bad sportsmanship!

Il start:

A few years back at my High School, we have this tradition of playing a friendly game of soccer after the end of the summer vacation. The tradition involves in the two different classes "study-specialization" and "sport-specialization" play a game of soccer against eachother.
It is an overall fun tradition and i think it helps bringing the classes together

So we played the match, and naturally we got dominated by the other team. We played overall very well considering what our team composed of. They scored goals and won the match. Now of course there were some faggots on the other team that constantly whined and bitched about us breaking the rules ect, just generally bitching and whining, even though they were winning by a landslide.

So the teacher finally gets enough of their shit and cancels the game and decides that we will not follow this tradition anymore if it continues like this. They continue to brag and bitch the rest of the day.

That's not all that great of a story, but whatever.

I played baseball, I was maybe 14, and the umpire was no more than two years older than me. I was at bat, and the pitcher was all over the place- one ball hit the plate, and bounced into the strike zone, _and was called a strike_. I turned to him and said something like "what are you joking?" And he said I would be thrown out if I said anything else. My next at bat I struck out on another terrible call and I just stood at the plate and threw my helmet down. I got thrown out, along with my team's manager. I pretty much had enough of playing sports after that season anyway. (Read: I sucked, but those calls were horrendous.)

I give you bad sportsmanship personified.

Bitches and moans after when any player delays the game or dives, then does the exact same thing on the opposite side of the field and bitches and moans when he doesn't get called for a foul.

Bengals Rub Oilers' Noses In Turf, 61-7

The third-quarter play was executed perfectly. Lee Johnson sideswiped the kickoff and the football bounced downed the right sideline, where Ira Hillary snatched it before running out of bounds at the Houston Oilers' 34-yard line. Cincinnati Bengals ball. One more time.

The third-quarter play was executed perfectly. Lee Johnson sideswiped the kickoff and the football bounced downed the right sideline, where Ira Hillary snatched it before running out of bounds at the Houston Oilers' 34-yard line. Cincinnati Bengals ball. One more time.

And the score before that onside kick was already Cincinnati 45, Houston 0. And when the last of the 47,510 customers trickled gleefully out of Riverfront Stadium today, the final tally was Cincinnati 61, Houston 7. Did Cincinnati rub it in and run up the score against their bitter rivals? You bet.

''I just don't like Jerry Glanville,'' Sam Wyche, the Bengals' coach, said of the Oilers' coach. Wyche chased Glanville for a word or two after this demolition. Glanville kept running for his team's exit, so Wyche simply stood and waved, and waved, and waved.

''I don't like phonies,'' Wyche continued, ''and I don't think Jerry is a very genuine guy. The cheap shots they tried after our quarterback was down, their big mouths. Jerry tries coming up and talking to me before the game and when the cameras start rolling he puts his arm around you and smiles behind those dark glasses. When your football team is so talented and yet so undisciplined, you got to be ready to get kicked and the score run up on you. And that's exactly what happened today.'' Whew! Play it again, Sam. ''I feel sorry for the Houston players having to put up with him,'' Wyche said. ''He can take that hit-the-beach stuff and take it back to high school or wherever he got it from. He's a joke.''

That story makes my dick hard. Jerry Glanville was a massive shit-taster. He totally coached his guys to play dirty and take cheap shots - especially while with the Falcons. You combine him and Deon Sanders on one team, and never before had I hated a sports organization so much. I'm just now getting over it, actually. It's no mistake that he had a Sega Genesis game called "Jerry Glanville's Pigskin Footbrawl". What a yeast-encrusted douche nozzle he was/is.

I should add that at no point has any team he's coached been a rival of teams that I care about. No butthurt. He's just a giant ass-hat.

i was point guard for this Church League hoops team in 8th grade
We were getting smoked and i was pissed.
This SF took the ball on the wing from a lazy entry pass. I gave chase, he was clearly gonna score - I pushed his back veeeeeery deliberately out of frustration; his head hit the wall. It was teh awesome.

Coach benched me for the rest of the game. GG coach
>> Zilla !!6kAFEWcki/E
Wow, do I have a funny story.

A few years ago, when I was playing hockey, our team was getting our ass handed to us, and people on the bench were getting pissed. Most of the people on my team were your typical cocky jock assholes that didn't like that they were getting scored on. So they devised a plan to break their leading scorer's leg close to the end of the game by having one guy get in a scuffle with him and have another guy fall on his leg.

Well, it didn't work.

Our team's douche number 1 gets into the scuffle, but the other guy spins my teammate around, tripping up the third man in, the supposed leg breaker. When he caught his balance, the other team's guy accidentally fell back on the leg breaker's ankle, and snapped it.

I kinda laughed to myself, but everyone around was horrified.

He also used to leave tickets for Elvis at the will call window in Houston and Atlanta when he was the coach. I only remember how fucking terrible he was on CBS's pregame show.

Apparently in that Bengals game, they were still passing on first down in the fourth quarter and were going for it on fourth down in the first quarter. That's pretty hilarious.

In 2007, the undefeated New England Patriots would leave all their starters in, and run up the score on opposing teams to try to get various individual and team offensive single-season records.

This move was mainly only criticized by whatever team they were playing that week, though many wished that karma would catch up to the Patriots, and that one of their starters would suffer an injury because of this poor sportsmanship.

The poor sportsmanship ended up paying off for the Patriots, as they finished the regular season as only the second ever 16-0 team, and set many offensive records in doing so.

I loved church league basketball, I scored about 20ppg one year, my only real glory moment in sports, at least in actual exhibition play. The team however was also full of kids from a private school while I was the only one from public. The coach would always let his overweight son run the point, and the assistant coach who actually coached at a college kid had the only green light to shoot the three. The assistant coach got a technical in each game, too.

The next year none of those kids were on the team, but I got mono and had to quit halfway through :[.

As a sophomore I was the starting PG on my school's varsity team. Now I will say that this isn't too big of an accomplishment because the team won a total of 3 games in my freshman year when I was on JV. So I got bumped to starting varsity, and actually led the team in points and assists for the first couple weeks.

We were playing San Fran Waldorf, one of the best teams in the state, and I was getting fouled the entire game by their PG and constantly told the refs to look for when he reaches in. They never called him on it. First play of the 4th quarter their fouling PG steals it from our SG and runs down for an easy layup. I caught up to him and just blasted his head with my forearm and he went flying. Benches clear but refs keep composure of the game.

I get a Technical and we both get warnings. Fast forward to the last play of the game. We're down 2. We have the ball and I get the inbounds pass. I drive down the lane, hit my SF for a wide open three. He decides to dribble against their fouling ass PG, who proceeds to hack the shit out of him. Refs don't call anything, he gets the steal, runs it back for an easy layup and all of the sudden we're down 4 with no chance to win with only 6 seconds left.

I'm the only one down there with the ref to pass it in but instead I slam the ball down in front of the ref and yell at him to CALL IT BOTH WAYS. I got tossed, we lost, and I never started another game in High school.

This is professional goddamn football. This isn't high school. You're out to win games at all costs, not trying to make it so other people don't feel bad about themselves. If you put your scrubs in and the other team comes back then that's your fault and everyone would have your head.

If the Bungles, Failtriots, or Aints want to run up the score, then that's fine by me.

I agree. I've never seen the problem with running up the score on someone. It's a morale boost for your players and the fans. It's the other team's job to not suck, so that's on them. As long as you're not cheating (I'm looking at you, NE) I have zero problem with it. I was pissed when the Jets finished their Shelling of the Rams by kneeling out the clock on the Rams 6. Jaguars defeat Dolphins 62-7.

The Jacksonville Jaguars can sing it loud. They are a legitimate Super Bowl threat.

With Dan Marino and Jimmy Johnson stumbling through possibly their last game, the Dolphins (10-8) didn't offer much of a challenge. Still, for at least one day, those who doubted the Jaguars (15-2) because of their soft schedule and ridiculed them for their Super Bowl rap song can give it a rest.

Among the stars were Fred Taylor, who had two highlight-reel touchdowns, and defensive lineman Tony Brackens, who recovered a fumble and literally danced his way into the end zone.

"This was one of those games where things are going well, you get confidence, you get it rolling and you start making a lot of plays," Jaguars offensive lineman Ben Coleman said. "Then we didn't let up. We made play after play after play and all of the sudden, we're running away."

To say the least.

Only the 1940 Chicago Bears, who beat the Washington Redskins 73-0 for the NFL title, have scored more points in the playoffs. The 55-point margin also is the second-largest in playoff history. The 62 points were the most the Dolphins have allowed -- ever.

No one hates the 49ers, SMU, Arkansas, or Colorado anymore, even though they cheated, because they lose.

Once the Pats team goes south and starts losing again, people will stop pissing and moaning about them. Until possibly they start winning again.

Look at the Steelers, they're good and were good, so people bitch about Steelers players "cheating" by taking steroids in the 70s, despite the fact that steroids were not banned substances back then. Meanwhile, the Broncos, another team known to have steroids in their lockerroom, don't receive flak about because they weren't as good then.

I used to play in goal for my local in the sunday leagues and a friend of mine (used to play left-back) was pretty much getting sent off every other game for serious offences and unsportsmanlike conduct. We used to think it was hilarious and i got tons of Penalty/Free Kick practice.

Used to have to sign a book and pay a tenner if you got sent off. He was really out of pocket at the end of the season and had a bit of a reputation but it was still hilarious.

You're a bit slow and perhaps morally ambiguous. Whether someone is winning or losing whilst cheating doesn't make cheating OK. Of course you'll draw more heat if you're "winning" while cheating. Why wouldn't you? That's the price you pay. All those shit teams that cheated? They also suck balls for having done so, but even their cheating failed. In a way, it's actually worse to cheat when you're a team that could easily win without doing so, hence everyone's beef with NE. Get it now?

I was playing Lacrosse in high school and all the defenders on the other team decided it would be a great idea to just surround the goal and make it impossible to shoot anything in. No matter how often our coach would shout at the refs, the bastards refused to do anything about it. Eventually later in the game the ref caved in and sent out their goalie for a 1 minute penalty. Their backup goalie came in and I shot one that went in when the defenders weren't on their guard.

The fucking ref wasn't watching the net and it was called a missed shot. Fuckers must've payed off that ref.

Bingo-bango, hammer on the nail right there.

As a patsfag, I am surprised by how many people who are so staunchly defending a team caught cheating. The worst part about Spy-gate wasn't that my team was being vilified, but because the organisation let the fans down. We had been taunted all those years with nearly getting there, and finally we had a good team, arguably the best... and they go and blow it.

That said, Belichek is a freaking genious and is the reason why we can win with a second-tier QB, RB injuries and missing three of our top players on defense.

I was playing basketball, somebody was trying to run through the lane, I stepped infront of him and he bounced off of me because he was and idiot and thought instead of stopping he should keep running. I was watching the ball when out of the corner of my eye I see him puffing out his chest with his arms out at his sides and he goes " Hey what did I ever do to you!" and trying to stare me down. I laugh and go "lol wut?" and ignore him. Fast forward, I get a pass and am about to take a three when this same fucker runs out to contest, but instead of just contesting he gets right in my face and goes "RARAKAKSKLDHDFHAKHDSFJHSDFKJH" right in my face for a good 5 seconds. I put the ball under my arm, point at him and go "What is this garbage ref?.." and everybody laughs. Fast forward, every shot I took he would yell SHORTTTTTTTTTTT just as I released. I decided enough was enough and crossed him over so bad he almost fell over. I went out of my way to do this and it was quite obvious he was my bitch. The end.

>>490507I am surprised by how many people who are so staunchly defending a team caught cheating

They are doing so because the punishment and backlash didn't fit the crime. The 49ers cheated that same year by tampering with a player (Lance Briggs) on another team. The press didn't make a big deal of it, NFL fined them a 5th round pick.

It became clear as the year went on the case was not about punishment, but public relations. People WANTED the Pats to suffer; if it had been handled as dispassionately as the 49ers and Broncos salary cap cases under Tagliabue, you wouldn't hear much complaining. Instead it was conviction by kangaroo court.
>> Anonymous
>>490534He just needs to keep the high ground and stay above reproach.

i.e. keep winning, because if he ever starts losing the press will hang him. The cardinal rule of coaching is to keep the press happy, and Belichick couldn't care if members of the media lived or died.

Let me rephrase that; Belichick would like most of the press members covering his team dead.
>> anonymous
>>490582
Again......cheating is always shitty. The degree of punishment doesn't mean shit. Bottom line: cheating is shitty. Cheating is shittier when it's a great team that could easily win without cheating. THAT is why it was a big deal. The 49ers cheating is fucked up, but they weren't going to accomplish anything anyway. It was more pathetic than anything. This is really simple to understand, dude. 1. Those two crimes don't compare.
2. The Pats had already been warned about their crime.
3. The Pats crime wasn't an isolated incident. It was YEARS of cheating.
4. They got off light, and were defended by the east coast media (and ESPN). Also, the league office destroyed the evidence so that no independent investigation could be started. Sounds like a cover up to me...
>> anonymous

Well....when your job is to win football games, then yes, winning games is part of staying above reproach. Not cheating is part of that also. These things should be obvious....why are they not obvious?

Didn't Bellichek do some hypocritical thing at the end of 18-1? For some reason I remember him having a reputation for not shaking hands with the opposing team's coach until the game clock reached zero. So he'd force the losing team to wait until the clock runs down until he actually came out.
>> anonymous
>>490582
I'd like to mention that as a Jets fan, my backlash against the Pats didn't start until they lost the damn Superbowl to the twat-sniffing Giants. That was pathetic. They didn't even show up. They also enabled the media to deify Eli Manning for doing not very much at all. The cheating was fucked up, based on principle. They probably would have won the game against the Jets even if they hadn't cheated. It's the principle of the thing.

They received the biggest fine in NFL history and lost their first round draft pick (the reason they were still able to pick and got Mayo was because they were to receive a pick from San Fran). Doesn't sound like "getting off light" to me.

They removed the pick at the beginning of the year. It was between the pick the team had a right to and the pick the team had traded to previously. They removed the pick they had a right to. They can't interfere with a trade and thus couldn't remove the pick they got from SF. It was the beginning of the year, anyway, despite what you say, no one knew where NE and SF were going to end up at the end of the year.

Must have missed your validation argument. All you said was the NFL could have taken an even higher pick.

I believe the highest pick taken away from a team before this was a 3rd round pick from the 49ers for brazenly signing under-the-table deals to cheat the salary cap with players such as Lee Woodall and Steve Young. And of course, the same year the 49ers lost a 5th round pick, and had to swap 3rds, with the Bears for tampering with a player under Chicago contract.

None of this comes close to a 1st rounder.

Now....can YOU agree that they probably....just maybe...should NOT have ever cheated to begin with? Can you agree that cheating is wrong? Crimes are most often committed out of desperation, insanity, hatred, etc. Were the Pats desperate, insane, filled with so much hatred that they just had to cheat? It's not the same; I don't care what you say. They cheated, the punishment was harsh, but they brought it on themselves, and in the end it's only football, and the Patriots are going to be just fine. The fact is, in football, the worst offense you can be guilty of...IS CHEATING. Crime has nothing to do with football. I made an analogy, and you took it literally, cause you're not that bright.
2. You consider punishment the most important part of rule. That's the problem. You keep ignoring the responsibility of the Patriots to play honestly, and you keep whining about how they were punished. They never should have been punished, because they never should have been cheating to begin with. It's not like, "Oops! we fucked up and accidentally cheated!" It was planned. They only regret having been caught, not having cheated. It's a great example of why our country has been slowly going down the shitter, because no one wants to take responsibility for their actions, they just want to cry about their punishment. Harsh punishment or not, you don't GET punished if you don't break the rules. That's the bottom line. You can cry all the live-long day about the severity of punishment, but they have no one to blame for it except themselves. There is no trial by jury in football. They knew that. They cheated. It's not a fucking democracy, it's business.

Rip a few right at their knee-caps, idiot.

The only thing the Patriots did wrong is that they cheated too well. Mangini got butthurt and went crying to mommy Goodell.

I was playing basketball back in highschool (collegefag now) and we were playing against this average team, but they had this one fairly good short dude playing pointguard, and as the shooting guard I was switched on him because our pg wasn't fast enough. A friend of mine who also played on our team told me that he got cut from a local division 1 team for attitude problems. After stopping him and annoying the shit out of him with my handchecking (lol) and general pestering defence, he bricks a shot which I defended and then proceeds to punch me in the stomach as he runs back on defense.

I wasn't really sure what happened at the time and I ran back down to start the offense, kick the ball out to one of our shooters who bricks it and the ball rebounds hard and heads for center court. The bastard and I both chase after it and he gets there first and slips, I manage to get the ball and as I pick it up, kick him as hard as I can in the face. No foul was called and nobody else seemed to notice. It was a small victory for me and we ended up winning the game. Fuck you #12.

i broke a player's leg in a football match when i was 14 because of an argument we had at the start of the game.

he couldn't walk for weeks.

i wasn't sent off or even yellow-carded; my dad was giving the referee a ride to a darts match after the game.

I play basketball in the park. Pick up games. There are some Mexican teams where I play, and because they are usually undersized when compare to other people they lie about the scores all the time and calls for foul whenever they miss a lay up. But when I reb or try to do a lay up they all go hack a Shaq on me

Ok I have one. I work for a company that throws together a hockey team once each year to compete against one of our competitors in an annual fun tournament. So my friend, (he's only 5'2" and weighs 140 lbs.soaking wet) who has only had skates on twice before decides to play as it's all for fun and charity. Thing is, in Canada, just about everyone can play hockey, and rather well for the most part. Anyway, my friend is on the ice trying his best, but constantly falling down. Well, this guy from the other team is in the vicinity, and my friend wipes out yet again and accidentally hits the guy with his stick in the shin pads (that's right shin PADS). After scrambling to regain his balance, this guy who's like 6'2" and probably played major junior hauls off and cold cocks my friend in the mouth knocking out 6 of his teeth. Now that's poor sportsmanship.

PS, several of our teams large and tougher guys beat that mother fucker till he had to be carried of the ice by his own team, funny, his own team didn't try to help him.

did you guys keep playing? cause that would be bad ass

Let's all be clear about something: there is NO such thing as bad sportsmanship when it comes to one professional sports team "runs up the score" against ANOTHER professional sports team.

I don't understand why jackasses like Gregg Easterbrook keep harping on about stuff like this. These guys aren't paid to keep football games close. They're paid to play as well as they can, just like their opponents are. It would be one thing if they were throwing 20 TD passes against a team made up of wheel-chair retards, but they're not.

If anything, dominated teams are the ones doing bad sportsmanship for having clearly not prepared for the game and giving up on the game. All that any team and coaching staff owes its opponent is a fair game free of cheating and dirty play. That's it.

Speaking of Gregg Easterbrook, how is it that that hack even has a column on ESPN? All he does is copy and paste his article from last week, update a few notes, and complain about primetime television shows.

Back in my high school days I played in a out of school league. For one, it was far more fun and secondly our school team was terrible.

Our team was very good in the league we made it all the way to the championship game. Now this other team had a few players who we were told played dirty and cheap. Boy was that the truth, over the course of the game they would step on our feet A LOT, knee us in the groin, elbow us in the back OFF BALL. We kept it close the entire game despite the lack of fouls and their poor sportsmanship, but loss due to a no call on one of their players blatantly smacking our point gaurd in the eye in the closing few seconds, which caused him to lose the ball and led to them with an easy layup to go up 4.

Even after the game they looked at us with this disgusting content face, knowing full well what they had done. I for one was going to make sure that smug look on their face wouldn't be around next year. I had a plan and the motive to carry it out.

...post continued

Over the course of the offseason I singled out a player every month, watching their habits, where they go, what they like to do, etc. When the time was right, and the individual was isolated, I drugged them and tied them up and wisped them away in the night to a location of discreet nature. As they lie bound while they slowly awake I made sure they remembered who I was. After the introduction I let them know it was their turn for "dirty play", as I rammed my cock up their ass with no lubricate. As their cries of anguish were let out I would cut their ears off with an extremely sharp knife and ram it down their throats. As they suffocated on their own ears I then proceeded thumb gauge their eyes.

When they were dead I cut them up limb by limb and took the part to the swamp, where many gators and snakes would be more than happy to have a meal.

I carried this on one by one for the next few months until every last individual of that goddamn team was no more. THEY NEVER HAD THAT SMUG LOOK ON THEIR FACES AGAIN.

The year after we won the championship!

When I was in college, there was a rugby club on Thursday and Saturday nights. It was really casual; we played with simplified rules (i.e. no scrums, no ball-stripping) and teams were creating by pairing off with someone about as big as you and going to opposite sides. All in fun, especially Saturdays when we added a "five drinks minimum" clause.

Then, one Thursday some guy (hereafter referred to as Assface) came out to play with us. Assface knew everything there was to know about rugby, and he was quick to remind us of this after, oh, EVERY FUCKING PLAY. He argued about every play that ended anywhere near the sideline. He argued about every tackle. He argued about every single one of our rules (and in case you failed to detect my sarcasm earlier, he didn't know shit about real rugby, either). He even argued about the score, which we barely even kept track of and would cease to even remotely matter after the game.

But Assface was more than just a whiny bitch. To compensate for his mediocre abilities, he played as viciously as he could. He would try to slam and claw his way past "blockers" (who were forbidden to use their arms and hands). He continually tackled people as hard as he could (tiny science majors and girls alike), and would try to hold them down on the ground for several seconds, as though they were going to get up and keep going if he didn't. Not entirely without reason, as there was a player who tried to pretend like tackles didn't count when carrying the ball: him. It wasn't long before the 25 or so of the rest of us (his teammates included) were itching to beat the shit out of him.

>>492936

The boiling point came when someone on our team broke free for a try (touchdown). He made it into the end zone, and slowed down as he reached the sidewalk 5 yards past our endzone. Suddenly, Assface zoomed in and tackled him from behind. On the sidewalk. In our casual, fun, pair-up-and-go-to-opposite-teams pseudo-rugby game. Assface even wrestled with the guy, trying to hold him down and strip the ball as the ballcarrier to get up and check his new scrapes and bruises from the pavement. Only a furious bellow from the club's 300-pound Scotsman caused him to stop. His meek-yet-defiant excuse? "He forgot to touch the ball to the ground when he went in."

Shortly after that, halftime was called and Assface disappeared, having either finally taken the hint and realized he was looking at the beating of his life if he didn't leave, or (more likely) muttering bitterly that we just didn't understand rugby.

I played flag football in junior high. The team started out with almost 30+ players, but dwindled down due to the coach's doucheness (favored playing his undersized and douchy son, yelling at us for when he calls the wrong play, teaching us creationism lawl, etc). Despite all this, we were pretty good in our division and made it to the championship game.

Now prior to the championship game, our QB (D+ student) decided to become enamored with a cumdumpster, and in essence quit the team. Who does coach replace him with? His douchy son of course. All of this during the week of our game, so pretty much automatic fail.

We got rocked in the championship game, which featured the Collins twins (Jason and Jarron) who now play in the NBA (or at least Jason). I had the pleasure of having one of them whiff right past me on their way to a touchdown.

So originally I was writing this about our flake QB, but I figured our coach was as much of a dick. In the later years, flake QB was found dead in an alley from a drug overdose. Fat coach's daughter married a sand nigger who tried to kill a family by ramming his truck into their house and holding them at gunpoint. Overall, I think justice was served.

You had a flag football coach try to teach you Creationism? Did he try to teach you football at all? That seems more like his job.

I don't have one that happened to me, but my little brother played football when he was in junior high. He was a free safety, and considering how small he was he was pretty good. Quick, hit hard, never got caught out of position. Unfortunately, he played the same position as the coach's son.

The coach's kid fucking sucked. I had to take my brother home from practice and every day, without fail, the coach's kid would issue a position challenge to my brother. And then get his ass handed to him. They'd run drills, plays, trade off in scrimmages, and that kid was just not as good.

And yet, my little brother only got in on special teams and garbage time. So he threatened to quit, the coach just said "ok, fine". That was the end of his football career.
