Biggest bust of the decade? I think so. He may not have had perennial all-pro potential but he was still the number one overall pick.

I'm gonna go with "Yes"

Came out of Penn State, drafted one pick ahead of his team mate at Penn State, LaVar Arrington.

Anyway, yeah, he blew.

and the 49ers could have picked Aaron Rodgers too

What NFL fan wouldn't know who Courtney Brown was? You're not special for remembering some fat nigger.

I agree. If you use your first overall pick on a QB, you expect him to be a franchise player. Hopefully the Niners tried to trade down (almost every team with the top pick should try).

what about adam archuleta? he was great in st louis, became a free agent, and chicago gave him a HUGE contract. i think he got cut after one year, bounced around the league, then retired.
i wonder if jared allen will see similar results.

He wasn't even the biggest bust in that draft

No player picked at 20 could ever be a biggest bust than someone picked in the top five and failed.

>>398909
Yeah. Plus Archuleta was a premier safety in STL, and only played poorly when he went to the Redskins.

in my mind there are two types of bust: draft busts, players drafted highly that fail to produce in the nfl, and free agency busts, players that do well for one team, become free agents, get huge contracts with a new team, and then fail to produce for their new system. though id agree draft busts are "worse" than the free agency busts

that being said, who do you all think is the biggest free agency bust of the decade?

Charles Rogers: 2nd overall pick in the 2003 draft.

He broke his collarbone not even mid way through his first season and never recovered from it

You forgot the multiple suspensions for substance abuse and the fact that he was absolutely terrible. Could have gotten Andre Johnson, he went third to the Texans.

Fuck you Urban Meyer and your inventive Utah offense. You made the schmuck look legitimate. So very, very disappointing. Maybe when Kurt Warner is done in Arizona he can give San Francisco a pity run in order to help him further tour the NFC West.

Fortunately, every QB Bust for all of history will always pale in comparison to Ryan Leaf.

Or any bust for that matter.

What pisses me off the most was that the Packers could've drafted Deion or Barry Sanders.

Can you imagine Brett Favre and Barry Sanders ON THE SAME TEAM?

Chargers could have drafted Randy Moss or Charles Woodson and they took Ryan motherfuckin' Leaf.

He's especially memorable because it seems like everyone that comes out of Penn State is fat for some reason.

Calling Mike Williams a bust the day he was drafted has been my meal ticket. EVeryone was talking like the Lions got something special that day. I so fucking nailed that one. Too bad everyone seems to just blame Millen when the Detroit fans would've crucified him if he didn't pick him at the 9... or 11... or whenever he was drafted that year.

I also called Jay Cutler being awesome. ESPN should hire me.

The 2005 QB class was funny in that Campbell and Rodgers had everything on Smith but he still went first. Rodgers fell because he's a Tedford QB and they always suck in the NFL. Campbell didn't rise because he played one really good year and was pretty bad before his senior year. So everyone went with the "safe" pick, Smith.
