Gliding into the wall while lifting up head = lose

To the naked eye, Phelps surely lost. But a high-tech timing system and video slowed to 10-thousandth of a second proved otherwise.

WTF is this barely shit, the pic above clearly shows Phelps touching the wall first dipshit. I sincerely hope you're trolling and arent really that fucking stupid...
>> Anonymous
Also, people have to take into account that since Cavic is from Europe, he is automatically a pussy. He glided into the wall while Phelps took a half stroke and went into it with full force. Phelps hands went slightly above water when they touched, then glided down. Phelps won, get over it.

exactly...

Was I arguing Phelps' win? No. I was commenting on the fact that the sensors are pressure-sensitive. If two swimmers touched the wall at the same time but one came in slightly harder than the other then that guy would win because he's exerting a just that little bit more force than the other. Which, in my opinion, is BS because it should be based on whether or not they're touching the wall. It's just a design flaw in the way that the sensors are made because I imagine that if they were programmed to go off at even the lightest of touch, they'd have problems all over the place from the waves caused by the swimmers splashing all over the place.

It's still really obvious that Phelps touched first in the replays and stuff. I'm just saying that the sensors they've got to measure these close calls operate on a really dumb premise.

>I am a gigantic faggot and I like dick in my mouth.

Fixed.
>> Anonymous
At the very least, Phelps would have tied Cavic, then would have smoked Cavic in the swim-off, because Phelps is much better conditioned.

The +0.001 of a second result at least spares Cavic that embarrassment.
>> Anonymous
>>263861

Well you obviously have a better alternative.

OP's site is retarded. The photo used at the top is right before the finish but crystal clear. The photo photo finish used as incriminating evidence looks like a screenshot on Youtube, but the clear shot isnt there.

>> Anonymous

You've obviously never used them. They cannot detect a fuckign wave hitting them, otherwise they would be going off nonstop during the race. You need to apply pressure to them. I've seen times where they don't trigger on a touch, but trigger only on a hard hit by a hand.

That's why they teach kids to hit them with an open palm, not fingertips. Fingertips may not activate the board.

The quality is so fucking terrible you can't tell anything from this video or the single frames. Remember, this isn't the same quality they used to judge this on. They had determined this before the coach had even decided to challenge it. Phelps won, no matter how many times people replay the videos trying to determine anything.

Steal the real video the olympic judges used and maybe you can show what is going on. Until then, you're using shitty youtube videos. People can't even tell from youtube videos if a fucking alien was looking in a window, and you expect this to mean something.

Get fucking real.
>> Anonymous
>>263994

too bad i think Phelps won
>> Anonymous
>>263992
That's how they work. They sense impact. You could make them super sensitive, but you would register wave impacts on the boards. Someone pushing a small wave into the board would set it off. You have to compress it more than a fraction to set it off. That's how it works.

It's also why the electronic systems are NOT the final judge of things. If there's no close calls and things looked to work right, they go with those results. If they don't, they start pulling video and deck judges in to determine the result. Electronic results can be and are overturned often enough if someone doesn't hit the board hard enough, but DID finish 1st.

I was a swimmer for over 10 years. I've seen the basic fucking boards to advanced ones they use in bigger national competitions as well as college level meets. That's how they work.

It's also how the system works overall, with judges there to backup anything. Ever consider that's why there's so many people on the deck during a swim? They're all refs, and these huge events usually also have people stationed under the pool viewing from windows much like the cameras were.

ATTENTION IDIOTS

NTSC IS ONLY 29.97 FRAMES PER SECOND SO IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL BASED ON A SCREEN CAP. FOR YOUR DUMB FUCKS, THIS MEANS THERE IS A FRAME EVERY .033 SECONDS WHICH IS MUCH LONGER THAN THE TIME DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PHELPS AND THE CRYBABY SLAV.

I've seen them not register many times. From normal high school meets to once at YMCA Nationals in 1999. They don't work perfectly. If he had hit the board but not set it off, they would have given him the gold. He did set it off, but was .01 slower than Phelps.

I think it's just /k/ wishing for another 18-1. Phelps is from Baltimore, not Foxboro.

I'm pretty sure this fails too. If we're watching live, full speed footage, then yeah, we would only able to perceive it at the 29fps rate. But if they use ultra-high speed cameras that accomplish many more fps, they can display those frames to us 1 by 1, and we will be seeing each frame, refreshing at 29.97 frames.

Thanks for your constructive post. Now all is clear.

It was very clear that the Serbian swimmer touched second after Michael Phelps ... It was clear from the video it was a matter of stroking. One was stroking (Phelps) and the other was gliding.

It took technology to confirm Michael Phelps won his seventh Olympic gold medal with a finish so close it fooled the human eye. Omega's electronic timing system was in "perfect order," having been tested as usual before each competition. Large touchpads hanging in each lane stop the clock when triggered by a swimmer's touch. The main timing system is powered by cable and a backup system by battery. Both systems recorded the same times for Phelps 50.58 seconds and Cavics 50.59 seconds. FINA's decision was based on who touched first.
