1.He does not have playoff experience.

I'm not sure if you understand what I'm saying. Manny Ramirez has a lifetime average of .310 over 15 seasons and this season he is at .300
>> Anonymous
>>228859
thats exactly MY point haha. manny is a career .310 hitter but he's not gonna hit .310 forever. Just because he's a .310 hitter now, there's nothing that says his average won't suddenly drop of .250. manny's also currently on the back end of his career. the question you have to ask yourself is if a declining ramirez is better than a peaking bay. maybe, maybe not, time will tell.

and if you dont agree with that, then i guess we can agree to disagree.
>> Anonymous
I used to call him Manny the Machine back when he played for Cleveland.

I hated him after he left but now that he caused all this drama in Boston and the fans are all upset and don't know what to believe anymore, I realized he is a pretty cool guy.
>> Anonymous
>>228871
As an Ausfag who only sees the occasional baseball game on cable I find the idea of a player leaving a team mid-season pretty fucking bad. Players should stick out their contracts & stay loyal, can't be too surprised that fans turn on a player who walks out. If it was a mutual decision between Manny and management then good luck to them both.
>> Anonymous
>>228897
Blame the fans. "Manny just being Manny" was all fun and games when he was making cell phone calls during games and high fiving people during plays. He got away with shit most people would be heavily criticized for and started feeling special, and then when he can't get what he wants, this happens. And people still can't stop talking about him or putting him on ESPN every five minutes.

If you think Manny wasn't a complete disturbance in the clubhouse, you're a fucking retard. He's been this way since he came to the Red Sox.

Also, for anyone actually IN Boston, look at Friday's Herald which has the Manny timeline.

Just read the timeline. What other player could EVER get away with that shit? Jesus Christ. I was always one of those "oh you, Manny" people, but looking in retrospective, I'm not sure what I was on.
>> ? !!Ajk/u82OAsp
>>228915
>and then when he can't get what he wants, this happens.

What exactly did he fail to receive? He said that he didn't like the front office, he was unhappy, and he would like to be traded. He gets traded. Manny gets what he wants.

>>228963
>I was always one of those "oh you, Manny" people, but looking in retrospective, I'm not sure what I was on.

You were on his dick.

I think so got the better of the deal. Bay and Manny will probably equal out to around the same this year, but next year, it was 20m for manny, or 7m for Bay. Even if they are paying the 7m remaining on Manny this year, thats still 6m saved, and not needing to worry about which year will be the year that Manny has a big decline.
That and Bay should surpase him in numbers, if his hitting stays as it has all year. He has legs to get into scoring position on a tea that likes to steal and H&R, and will have more people in front of him for RBIs.

oh wait, this is /sp/...18-1, durr
>> RMD !h1LZxECEVA
>>229041

You said it perfectly. Bay at this point is a better player than Manny. Watch the footage
>> RMD !h1LZxECEVA
And before you Blueballs come up and go "NO MANNY R HAS BETTER BAT AVG LOLZ U FAG", I'd like to point out the difference in fielding and defensive play between Manny and Bay. Stat by stat, Bay is a better performer, and puts a lot of hustle and pride into the game, whereas Manny half-asses it most of the time.

Jason Bay: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=5496&context=fielding
Manny Ramirez: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?playerId=2974&context=fielding

tl;dr Bay is a better fielder.

Thats my point. You have been putting up with that shit for years. Now he is gone and either Boston fans

a. Pretend they never liked him

b. Curse his name like he is Bill Buckner or some shit.

It just all screams of classic Boston bandwagoing and shitty loyalty.

88: 100-60 (.625)
89: 87-75 (.537)
90: 91-71 (.562)

Yankees:
84: 87-75 (.537)

86: 90-72 (.556)
87: 89-73 (.549)
88: 85-76 (.528)
89: 74-87 (.460)

For that period of time, the Mets were better than the Yankees. Not so much the case by the mid-90's.

Seriously. I've seen probably a hundred people say "Manny who?" now. You know...Manny fucking Ramirez. The World Series MVP. One of the main reasons the Red Sox fans aren't spewing shit about a curse anymore. The guy who's offense carried your team at times.

This just proves what uneducated pricks New Englanders are. They go on about how they are the best fans, and what a privilege it is to play in that shitty park...yet when one of the best players to ever put on a Red Sox uniform leaves, they act like they never liked/needed him.

This is why no one likes Boston fans. They are seriously worse than Yankees and Mets fans put together.

Bandwagoners go on about how Manny sucks... Not the true fans...

I've been a fan ever since birth, and my opinion on the whole thing is simple..

Manny was and still is great, I appreciated all that he's done and has brought the Sox more than they could ever hope for (2 WS Rings)

But he slowly turned into clubhouse cancer which is horrible for any team.

Manny's happy he's gone so I guess it worked out. All in all I'd rather have Manny but Bay is just fine,It turned out much better than what could of happened (EG: Manny traded for prospects)

what I said and the proverbial "FUCK YOU MANNY, GOD DAMNIT" (Because most Sox fans like to get pissed at just about anything) are what real red sox fans think.

Sad to see Manny go, but he's been a pain for years now. "Manny Being Manny" never should have been allowed in the first place...

Usually, his teammates would back him up, but at this point, when there were reports of veterans saying "he's got to go", he needed to be gone.

Bay seems like a great pickup. I couldn't watch the past two games because I've had odd hours at work, but I'm excited for his future in a Sox uniform.

I am horrendously pissed about Moss leaving (hopefully he'll do well in Pittsburgh and make a name for himself), a little less about Hansen (though the Sox really needed to make a bullpen move).

tl;dr: sad about manny's departure because of his past but his actions became inexcusable and he had to go
