You know what separates Great Britain and the other (more likely) dominate countries in the Olympics is. Not population, not money, not x amount of athletes there. But we don't get behind our athletes like other countries do. Sure we give them a slot on the news and go "wooow well, you won yourself a medal, you can meet the queen now" but in other countries like America or Australia they don't just win the medals for themselves.. but they win it for their country.. And their country gets behind them. We only get behind them when it looks certain they'll get gold. We need to sort this out!

All I know is none of them possess any wow-factor at all, but Chicago is slated as the favourite.

Chicago may or may not be a great city, but I'm really not keen on yet another American olympics

Tokyo, Madrid, Chicago, Rio de Janeiro. Next year around early July.
>> Anonymous
>>267702
Among Chicago's challengers, Tokyo's bid is, logistically, the best, (it has the highest 'bid rating' according to Wikipedo) but I've heard their chance of winning it is slim as the host city will be chosen just a year after Beijing and the IOC will not be keen on another Asian Olympics so soon. The support for the Games is not so high among Tokyo residents, either.
If Tokyo doesn't get the Games Chicago probably will.
The host will be chosen in October 2009, I believe.

Rio (and Brazil as a larger whole) has problems with infrastructure, funding, and deteriorating existing venues, though.

Australia may have some awesome existing stadia, but you don't have nearly enough that meet the minimum capacity requirements for World Cup matches. You only have ten sports venues that hold more than 30,000, and your football federation wants to use sixteen to host the World Cup in 2018.

The MCG is not FIFA WC worthy according to our very own FFA.

If we ever get the WC then the only way Melbourne will host a game is in Docklands stadium or, more likely, expanding the new Storm/Victory stadium.

IIRC they laid the foundations for the stadium to be expanded to 50-60,000, which would be good for the WC.

I didn't say you NEED sixteen, I said that's what Australia wants

Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has formally announced the Federal Government's support for the bid."Winning the right to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup is a herculean task, but overcoming tough odds is what Australian football does best," he said. The problem with the 1994 World Cup in the US was that it was too spread out. You had some games in NY and then games 3000 miles away in LA. Maybe if they renationalized it (ex.. All games in the North East or all games on the West Coast)

Actually, this would be the same problem with an Aussie World cup. It just works better for the fans attending games if its in a smaller country like France, Germany, Italy, or the UK.
