It's over. China has won. Anonymous
With 35 gold medals already, and more to come, China has an almost insurmountable lead over America.

Considering that the US only won 36 gold metals TOTAL in both Athens and Sidney and it's an almost impossible hill to climb. China could literally not win another gold and still beat the US.

Not even America's ridiculous 44 gold in Athens is a guarantee to top china in these Olympics.

It's just a matter of time before China starts owning America in the pool too.

Track is another question mark though, because China doesn't steal athletes from poor African nations to inflate their medal count.

Sorry America, but it's time to welcome a new global sports power.

I need to write a book on the art of trolling. Although many people will fall for this, trolls should aspire to something greater...

Subtle trolling is the best.

It is a very good troll. The part about "its a matter of time before China starts owning America in the pool too" is just inviting that Phelps pic of "Pool's Closed."

Because, literally, the Olympic pool is closed.

Apparently stating facts is now trolling?

Nice dodge, but that doesn't change the fact that these Olympics belong to China.

He forgets what even says. He said that america only won 36 gold in Athens and Sidney so that china could stay where it's at and win then goes on to say that America could get 44 and not even win.

Then is obvious with the strealing from "poor" african nations to inflate medal count when most of our medals come from swimming and gymnastics.
>> Anonymous
well that settles it, China is now officially greater than the USA.
>> Anonymous
>>265662
Inflating the medal count doesn't mean that you have to get the majority of your medals from stolen poor Africans. It just means that you steal poor Africans to inflate, i.e. pad, your medal count. Something China doesn't have to do to win.

Not that hard to understand, well, at least for someone who isn't blinded by American butthurt.

Oh and the one gymnastic gold medal America won is by a fucking Russian.

lol at your fail!

Not trolling, but clearly indicates you come from a butt-hurt country that's not China trying to redeem yourself by mooching off of China's success.

I did a simple math equasion treating medals in a manner similar to grades in college, assigning a value of 3 for gold, 2 for silver, and 1 for bronze (like credit points) then dividing the total by the # of medals won. China comes out to 2.36 while the US comes out to 1.91, giving China the higher GPA in medals.

Still this is flawed because someone who won only one medal can get a perfect GPA of 3 (the highest in this equasion since 3 = gold) with winning only one medal as long as it is gold. Does winning only one medal make a country better than the US in medals? no. What it does is serves to point out the flaws of declaring a winner with fewer medals because of the average of gold medals.

China doesn't have to whine about anything because they are winning.

It's just a statement of fact that Americans have to get their athletes from other countries to remain competitive on the world stage.China simply doesn't have to do that to dominant the Olympics.

Of course ranking countries by the percentage of their medals which were gold is insane! It takes away the advantage of getting more medals.

Do the same thing without the weird normalisation at the end and then we'll talk.

Americans are so brainwashed into fearing their own government that they think it's impossible for government run agencies to actually be successful in other countries.

Don't blame China for implementing a government agency that actually WORKS, unlike their pathetic American counterparts.

If the pollution becomes a big enough issue, the best part of an authoritarian government is that it gets shit done. In America people are too busy bitching about whether or not to drill next to manatees to get anything done.
>> Anonymous
>>265786
Nobody is saying the Chinese government is perfect, but democracy and freedom of speech isn't all it's cracked up to be if you're poor as shit and have no real chance at having a decent life. China was correct in reforming economically before it reformed politically. Ask India is they would rather give up some of their rights so they wouldn't have to live in filthy 3rd world conditions and I guarantee you it would be a resounding HELL YES!
>> Anonymous
>>265801
Authoritarian governments get nothing done, except stuff at a high, national level.

Local concerns are always neglected in favor of sweeping policy and the capitol. This is eventually why authoritarian systems fail; they do not harness all the capital available to the country.
>> Anonymous
>>265806

Who are you kidding...China has no idea how to reform politically.
>> Anonymous
>>265806China was correct in reforming economically before it reformed politically.

China did not sit down and prioritize systems to modernize. The Central Party sat down and priortized systems to keep themselves in power.

>Ask India is they would rather give up some of their rights so they wouldn't have to live in filthy 3rd world conditions and I guarantee you it would be a resounding HELL YES!

You've got everything back to front. India is 3rd world because their laws enforce their old caste system, making them incredibly inefficient and therefore poor as a society.
>> Anonymous
>>265809
Yep, this is why China has lifted more people out of poverty than any other civilization in the history of the world.

You might be right EVENTUALLY, but right now the Chinese government and a capitalistic economy is doing wonders for china.
>> Anonymous
>>265815
Caste system might contribute to their problems, but the fact that the Indian bureaucracy is so massive that almost nothing can get done is also a contributing factor.

>> Anonymous
>>265821Yep, this is why China has lifted more people out of poverty than any other civilization in the history of the world.

What is this bullshit? I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous on so many levels.

You don't just pull people out of poverty unless you're giving them money, just like a government can't PUT people into poverty unless its through taxation or confiscation of property.

You could measure how many people are poor in a country to figure out the financial health of a society, but this "statistic" doesn't measure anything!

ECONOMIC REFORMS, HAVE YOU HEARD OF THEM?!
>> Anonymous
>>265836
Yes it does.

Hitler agreed, don't bother him about it
>> Anonymous
>>265832
Do they have any power to elect national level leaders or enact national level policy?

No they do not. Local-level representatives are primarily charged with implementing national level policy at the local level: 5-year plans and whatnot. It's very top-down.

I'm no expert on Chinese government/constitutionalism, but I've never heard anybody describe the power or rights held locally or individually by Chinese villages or citizens that supercede those held at national or party level.
>> Anonymous
>>265850
All that is true. However, at least it's a start.

I think reforming politically will take time, if it happens at all. But it's nice to see that some progress is beginning to be made.
>> Anonymous
Bureaucracy and decision-by-committee are what stagnates governments.

Totalitarian regimes are most effective for enacting immediate change. "Democratic" aristocracies excell at maintaining the status quo. Who doesn't realize this?
>> Anonymous
>>265843
YOU ARE AN IDIOT. YOU DO NOT GET TO MAKE ECONOMIC REFORMS AND THEN CLAIM YOU "PULLED" PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY.

People should not be in poverty in this first place, policies that are said to have put them in poverty should not have existed, and the reforms don't make people rich, people working and creating their own oppertunities do.

The image of the arm of the central government reaching down and pulling people out of poverty is horseshit.
>> Anonymous
>>265863
China is not America you fucking idiot.

If the Government can put people into poverty (like you just fucking said), it sure as hell pull them out.

In a communist economy like china was before 1979, no amount of "creating your own opportunity" would get him rich. Once the economic reforms took place, he could. That's what I mean by the economic reforms pulled more people out of poverty than any other civilization in the history of the world. If the Chinese government didn't have these reforms they would still be poor as shit.
