I, too, am an Amerifag who recently got into watching Football. I picked a team to support in the World Cup on a completely arbitrary qualification (the Shonen Jump girls World Cup series of pictures). Sucks for me, I ended up stuck rooting for the Czech Republic. Luckily, my back up team (chosen exactly the same way) is much better. Go Brazil! Of course, this wouldn't have been a problem if this damn country cared about Football (our version sucks hard). Anyway, just adding that in. Barring some weird personal decision for a team, I'd suggest you just watch a bunch of games until you find a team that strikes you as more fun to watch/better than others.

We won't break the top 4, our defence isnt good enough and midfield doesn't protect them enough... plus it's Ramos' first full season in charge, lots of foreign players needing to bed in etc. We'll be fighting for a UEFA cup place.

Hopefully before the end of this window we'll have signed a centreback and a tough tackling midfielder, if we don't, I can see us struggling this season.

We've spent a lot of money already, but we've also recouped almost all of it from selling Keane and our fringe players.

If you want a club that'll never win anything, plays good football but always manage to fuck up somehow, and have a fanbase with a great sense of humour about it all then Sunderland's the way to go.

I love every minute of the constant pain and frustration, would never have it any other way.

IMO, mid to low table is always more interesting, but if you have to pick a top club Arsenal or Spurs are the way to go. They have the most welcoming and most passionate fans outside the North-East.

Basic run down of the big three leagues:

Spain: Most entertaining if you're new to Football.

Italy: Most entertaining if you you're a long time fan.

England: lol. Crap league. Only liked by Americans (who know nothing about Football) and the English (who know nothing about Football). Full of loooooong balls and over paid "slaves". Every club below Liverpool couldn't cut it in Spain or Italy. Full of "fans" who think that it's the greatest league in the world because the clubs are the best at whoring themselves for money. Really the only good thing about this league is the lack of English players.

EPL:

Arsenal: Extreme fucking bandwagon team and the most overrated team in europe for the last 4 seasons. They have a modern myth about them saying that they play attractive football, but I haven't heard a single argument of what sets them apart from the other teams in the league. However when they actually meet decent opposition they do play more defensively than Liverpool, and I don't find that very attractive. Worst choice out there by far, IMO.

Manchester United: Perfect choice for glory hunters. IMO they deserve some credit for having some homegrown players in the team and still doing well. Decent choice, but you'll be considered a glory hunter from the start.

Liverpool: The most boring out of the top 4 teams. They concede less than most of the other top 4, but they score far less (last season was an exception though). A team if you like to be hated by pretty much everyone else.

Chelsea: Considered to have "bought" their trophies (something that is rarely said about Manchester United, although they've spent enormous amounts of money ever since the late 90's). Probably more hated than Liverpool.

I'd recommend Blackburn or Everton. It's a shame that B'burn lost Bentley though, and that Everton haven't bought a single player during the summer.

The rest are pretty... Meh.

>> Anonymous
>>285743
I guess Spurs are a decent choice, but they're like the Leeds of london, hated by every other team in the city.

The best thing about spurs is probably that they like to attack and at the same time don't know how to defend at all. Resulting in high-scoring rollercoaster matches.
>> Anonymous
>>285611

Wait what?

I'm an evertonian and hate the redshite but if you're going to support any team when irish I'd suggest celtic, liverpool or everton mainly due to huge irish connections.

I've read some interesting things about Moutinho and Tiago, linking them to Everton. Imagine a midfield with Arteta, Cahill and Moutinho, that'd be class.

I'd love to see you steal the CL spot from the lesser team in the city, but I guess Arsenal are more likely to miss out on the CL this season.
>> Anonymous
>>286305

But it all comes down to money.... Why did someone buy man city and derby and birmingham last year?

Their fans are shit arse losers who have no passion and are going nowhere in the future.

Tiago isn't coming he's said it, mouthinho wants to come but moyes wont pay 20 million when we need a holding midfielder so badly and the balckburn game highlighted that.

That's why new fans love it so much. They like attacking Football. After you start to learn more about the game though you appreciate the technical aspect of Italian Football, and then for those who will never know anything about Football there's always the prem.

>Also, Italian football isn't good either. Let's ride a 1 goal lead for the whole game!

lol typical "hurr italians play boring defensive football" you always see the dumb English saying. What they don't want to admit? Serie A has a higher goal-per-game average than the prem, and sometimes even la liga. Really I think only the French league has a lower GPG average than the prem.

>> Anonymous
>>287318

i take your points, but for sheer entertainment (be it in the form of brilliant football, or simply soap opera type drama), the premiership is the king of all the european leagues at this present time.

i read an article a little while ago saying that the second most watched game in spain of all last season, apart from the obvious real madrid vs barcelona, was a liverpool vs arsenal match, from the premier league.

it's insane how popular the EPL has become - but there is a good reason for it.
>> Anonymous
>>287330
but yeah it's not very exciting when you have arsenal attacking in birmingham's half with every birmingham players behind the ball creating walls of cockblocking
>> Anonymous
>but there is a good reason for it.

Yeah, money. The Prem is by far the best at advertising themselves and making money, and they'll do it at any cost. I remember just a few months ago all the clubs were discussing adding overseas games to the season. The ENGLISH premier league playing games in India or whatever the fuck? Yeah ok. Foreign owners, foreign players and foreign stadiums, nice. Good thing FIFA or whoever shut them down on that.

But anyway, the best Football? No. Not even close. Boring long ball with players who can't even handle the basics like passing or dribbling.
