with the qualifiers coming up I can help but bring up the continuing refusal by england managers to play Gerrard in central mid where he belongs.
Not on the wing
not crammed in the middle with fat frank or any other bum they throw in ther.

when will they let their best talent carry them to africa

No.

I'm still convinced Owen and Heskey up front is the only way England will ever succeed in anything.

not an issue right now though, is it?

From Martin Samuel's column a while back:

>Steven Gerrard is a brilliant player, but he cannot start on the left of midfield. Brilliant, but he does not like it on the right, either. Brilliant, yet uncomfortable behind the striker. Brilliant, but obviously cannot play in the same team as Frank Lampard. Brilliant, but he must have Gareth Barry beside him. For such a brilliant player, Gerrard’s champions spend an awful lot of time telling the world what he cannot do.

Carrick and Owen Hargreaves need to be played in the middle with Gerrard in my opinion.

Gerrard, Lampard irl doesn't work half as well as it does on football manager.
>> Anonymous
Why is everyone in support of dropping Lampard and not Gerrard? Lampard's played better for England over the years than Gerrard has.

Gerrard - 68 apps, 13 goals
Lampard - 62 apps, 14 goals

Their records are virtually the same but I agree that Lampard gets a lot of unfair stick.

What's their assist records?

Dunno, the FA website doesn't list them. Maybe somewhere else has them?

Well lucky for you Gerrard is out. Lampard will still help fail though.

I used to think that Rooney and Gerrard were the only two England players that weren't horribly overrated...

Now I'm sure ALL England players are horribly overrated.
>> Anonymous
I have nothing against Lampard I just rate Gerrard more. England have some really strong central mid-field players Gerrard, Lampard, Carrickard, And Owen Hargreavesard I wish England managers would in friendlies try out 4-5-1, or a 4-3-1-2 I know the latter would leave us a bit thin but it could be worth a try.

GK:David James
CB:John Terry
CB:Rio Ferdinand
LB:Ashley Cole
RB:Micah Richards
CM:Steven Gerrard
CM:Owen Hargreaves
LM: Ashley Young
RM:David Beckham
CF: Michael Owen
CF: Emile Heskey

That's the best balanced England team. Yeah Rooney's missing but so what; he needs to learn how to shoot and not track back all the fucking time.

You best be joking nigger.

I can see everything else working in there. Apart from Heskey not being able to score for the life of him, that is.

Beckham has been our most effective player for a long time. He always gives it his best and you can rely on his set pieces and crosses most of the time. As for Heskey, he's there to flick it on to Owen or hold up the ball. Definitely our best target man (Crouch is too awkward)

Scratch what I said before. I just remembered Bentley has successfully failed every opportunity he's been given.

>>311838

Yep him, Lennon and SWP are all average players, where as Beckham still has that bit of match-winning class...
>> Anonymous
>>311845
Lennon actually does suck. SWP should be in the Starting XI if he can recapture his form for his first spell with City.

>RB:Micah Richards
I'd rather keep Richards at U21 for now and play Brown RB. I prefer Richards at CB.
>> Anonymous
>>311856
Meh I still don't think he's international class.

>>311862
Hmm well Ferdinand and Terry still have a good few years left in them so I can't see him dislodging either of them anytime soon. Brown is limited and I can't think of many other Right backs...

Beckham belongs on the bench. Here's my team:

Hart
Richards Terry Ferdinand Cole
Carrick Hargreaves
Bentley Lampard Young
Defoe
>> Anonymous
--------James/Green-------------
Brown-Terry-Ferdinand-Cole
---Carrick/Hargreaves----------
--------Lampard--Gerrard-------
Beckham---------------Young--
-------------Owen------------------

Beckham did well in the last friend and saved us from embarrassment. I'm not too sure if Defoe could work particularly well as a lone striker, and Owen has started to play some good football again, I could see him at City in January. Ashley must've merited a place on his recent performances. I think with Carrick or Hargreaves playing behind them Lampard and Gerrard might actually work.

Rooney, Joe Cole, Defoe would be my attacking substitutions. Carrick/Hargeaves, Neville, maybe Huddlestone would be defensive subs.

No Gerrard/Young/Carrick/Hargreaves for these next matches anyway. I'd give Nolan a cap against Andorra because I could. And play Beckham, Lampard, Joe Cole, Barry against Croatia.

>>311930
Lol Defoe by himself up front? Lampard an AM? Replace Defoe with Ashton and Lampard with Rooney and you have a decent team.

Good team

I've just realised James and Green have saved penalties recently.

Robinson will start both games.

England would solve their goalkeeping crisis if they picked Steve Harper

Agreed. Terry is above average, but no better than that. He just gets fapped over by the English media because of all that "BRAVE ENGLISH LIONHEART WARRIOR" shit.

Where's Jamie Carragher.
>>312013
Green is hitting some form, and since he turned 37, David James learnt how to be a goal keeper, but he'll only last till the next WC. Plus from Jan 1st we'll have a cool Spanish man.

Gooner here.

I'd trust James and Green before I#d even consider Almunia. Heck, I'd even put Carson before him.

Margaret: Mike, here's the squad list, and I've given copies to the press, like you asked.
Mike: Ah, well done, Margaret, thank you... hey, hang on a minute! There's 28 names here, I only picked 26.
Margaret: Well, that was the list you gave me.
Mike: Tony Hedges, York City? I didn't pick him, love.
Margaret: You must have done, Mike. I wouldn't have put him down, otherwise.
Mike: Never heard of him, have I? And who's this clown? Ron Benson, Plymouth Argyle?
Margaret: Look, Mike, they were on the list of players that you gave me!
Mike: [holding up the cigarette box he wrote the squad list on] Oh, come on, love! Show me where it says "Benson and Hedges" on that.

Owen and Heskey are a brilliant up front for England. 11 Goals in 12 Games and even performed well up front again during our unfortunate qualifiers.
