On the assumption that you're a soccer fan:

First two: I have watched soccer. I have watched men kick a ball around for fifty minutes with nothing happening. It is boring as fuck. Soccer fans have no right to say their game is more exciting.

Third one: Your sport is the one full of actors who drop in pain when someone breathes on them. You gave the world David Beckham. If you think 300-pound men trying to hurt each other is homoerotic, you must have some weird fetishes.

Last two: You guys wear fucking company logos on your shirts. End of story.

tl;dr: lol soccer.

>> Anonymous
>>353607
no u doin it wrong. a team getting just 18 points would be fun to watch and no team can score just 1 point, so change that 1 to a 2 or 3 and you're set. then u gonna b rite. aight.
to help you visualize this, this is basically the points you get when you score in a football game:
touchdown = 6 points
extra point (you kick the ball through the uprights after a t.o.) = 1 point
2 point conversion (you pass or run after the t.o.) = 2 points
field goal = (you kick the ball b/c you couldn't get to the endzone) = 3 points
safety (you stop the ball inside their own endzone) = 2 points.
so you see scoring just 1 point is impossible and getting to 18 would be a travesty of most likely sloppy plays, so you fail.

Fucka you motherfuckers.
>> Anonymous
>>353807
Yeah, even if you go to a high school game where there is no need to pause for commercials, it takes just as long to finish because the game necessitates numerous breaks.

That's actually one of the reasons for the financial success of football. It is perfect for television broadcast. So, there's really no downside to the commercials. It'd either be that or watching them stand around.

The breaks are artificially lengthened to fit in more commercials though, as anyone who has been to a game can attest. Notice when they don't go to commercial it takes only about a minute to set up for the kickoff after a score? There's a lot of standing around when they need an advertising break. Usually there's a "TV official" who tells the refs when they can restart the game
>> Anonymous
>>353807
Also, they do take breaks for commercials, ever heard of "TV timeouts"?
Once I watched this college game on TV where the ref would actually turn on his mic and announce "timeout, media" every time
The break at the two minute warning is essentially just there so they can jam in some advertising

I'm an Amerifag, but I'm starting to not like our "football" for various reasons. The "tuck rule," the fact that if you look at a quarterback/punter/kicker after the play you get penalized, no helmet to helmet hits, tons of commercials, what it takes to make a catch differs game to game, referees blowing whistles to early, there's some more things that I can't think of right now.
>> Anonymous
>>354040
Never been to a real NFL game.

Ok so we take commercial breaks. At least we don't lie about our breaks when your boringball is just kick kick pass to each other with a strong pass up the sidelines to just cross it in to see if you can head it in for a goal /English football

It's because it's hard to get an idea of the tactics of American Football unless you've been brought up with the game. To 'jump into 'it - as many of us would be interested in doing - is kinda difficult.

Further, it's too stop-and-start. Well... OK, not that it's the stopping and starting - Rugby League is stop and start, and we like that - it's that when American Football stops, it stops for five minutes whilst people have a drink of Kool-Aid, chat to the coach for five minutes, and slap each other on the ass. I would be interested in getting in to American Football, but I'm not going to spend three hours watching a damn game.

Didn't really understand it, caught a couple of games when I couldn't sleep, got into supporting the Packers, I think it was when they went 4-12 but I had no idea, I just liked Favre's gunslingin'.

I just like how it's played, especially now I actually understand tactics a bit now, but its stoppages are waaaay too long and it is too disjointed.

I still prefer 'soccer'.

I also don't understand why you can't just accept draws, there's no need for OT.
>> Anonymous
Football seems like a total mess. Huge dudes throwing themselves at each other and all that isn't really my kind of thing. Besides, soccer is way cooler (and more fun to play with friends).
>> Anonymous
>>354284
you have to understand tactics are a big part of football which is why they talk to each other a lot. i agree i fucking hate the media timeouts. there was once a time when this was not true and i wish they really cut down on it, but the NFL rapes the wallets of companies to advertise during game. also i don't get the "3 hours for a game" argument because i watch futbol too and that's about a 2.5 hour investment. you can't watch for another 30 minutes? my suggestion is to watch college ball first, players don't get paid, more tradition, more hated rivalries, and things don't change as much since teams are tied to universities.

if you wonder why Americans talk bad about all those corporate logos on uniforms for futbol it's because in ours they have molested every other facet of our sport with sponsorship and the last facet of wholesomeness is the uniform.

yes you are talking about some rivalries that span from the early 20th century to now and they have bigger stadiums. the crowds are different too, like during the LSU-Auburn game the other day everyone had colors on and had what i think are pom-poms waving during kicks and big plays.

they have somewhat less advert breaks but not a whole lot, depends on what game you are watching. if it's a big name school probably not.

apples and oranges

we only have penalty shootouts when a team HAS to win, we used to not have them in the FA cup for instance and the final would often get played 4 times to get an actual winner. It's the same for american sport, you don't like draws, it's in your sporting culture and it's just a bit silly.

But hell, you're probably just trolling me, ah well.

Also, a question to anyone, I know the college game has a big following in USA, so I want to get into it a bit, I don't get into sports really unless I follow a team, so I was wondering, is there a team with a bit of history a good rivalry with another college, is currently good(and will stay that way for a while) and plays pass offence?
