I went to my first Roller Derby bout last night. IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME^2I had read about the sport a few days before I went to it but I had no idea how it worked and I figured that I'd probably get bored of it once I watched a full game. However once I actually got there after about 10 minutes I had a complete grasp of how everything worked (penalties aside) and was already jumping up and down in my seat with the rest of the crowd. Hell I wasn't even rooting for any team, it was for the Gotham Girls (Queens and Bronx) and I'm from Long Island - I didn't give a shit. It was so damn awesome that I was rooting for both of them. Then after the game I went upstairs as fast as I could and got the signatures of as many Roller Girls as I could; Just the fact that they were out of the rink and were face-to-face with the fans was very charming and awesome.A day later I'm tired, my throat is on fire and my voice is nonexistent. But it was worth it....So why can't other sports be this badass? I've never been that damn worked up during a game, much less for one I've never experienced before.
