Manny wanted 24, that's Walter Alston's number, a hall of fame manager for the Dodgers. Manny then asked for 34, but that's Fernando Valenzuela's old number, and that's unofficially retired. Then Scott Boras got involved and it was 66 for a while and the Dodgers and Boras decided on 99. Then Casey Blake offered the number 30 to Manny but by then all the merch the Dodgers made to promote Manny(and to sell) so Manny kept 99.
In other words, Manny doesn't care because he's only in L.A. for two months.
