I thought I knew what offside was then Ruuuuuuuud scored.
As far as I am aware and concerned offside is when a forward motion ball (towards the offending goal if the ball is played back but their are no outfield opponents between the player and the goal it's not offside as the ball was played backwards, forward motion can be a pass, a cross or a shot) is played towards an offensive player who is "active" in play.
Throw ins for some reason are exempt.
If a player is in an offside position in "phase one" but not active, if he is then because active in phase two in an onside position play is played on and no free kick is given.
imo the Dutch goal was offside. Not imo, but fact Poland's goal was offside.
The penalty was strictly speaking was a penalty. But then all calls like that should be given, that sort of precedent shouldn't be set at an international finals. It should be decided in a review at the end of the year then ran through club level over the season.
