Now that baseball and softball are off the card for the next Olympics, how about some fucking Olympic MMA? I say FUCK YEAH

Wait...really?

I don't think enough countries have athletes for it.

How exactly is fightan in a ring not sport?
>> Anonymous
wat

Won't happen, and if it does, we're talking headgear, elbow pads, 8-12 ounce gloves, no ground and pound.

I have met Chuck a bunch of times over the last couple years; he lives by my parents, and I have seen him a bunch all over the city.

Fighting in a ring is okay
Fighting in a cage is pro wrestling shit

How would they have a MMA fight tournament style that ends in 2 weeks? They'd have to do it ironman style, and there'd be constant complaints about people who 'should' have won but didn't because of injury.

MMA is a fucking joke. take boxing, remove ANY semblance of classiness, add hicks and rednecks and WWE marketing and you have MMA. it will never and should never be an olympic sport

Yes, boxing is totally classy
>> Anonymous
As a pure sport I think it's much better than boxing, but like some have said already there is just too much useless baggage attached to it for it to be taken seriously.

olympic boxing is boring as shit. i would't want to see the olympic committee rape mma as bad as they did boxing.
>> Anonymous
>>278373
the competitors might not be classy but the marketing, the audience and the overall message is. when i picture a boxing audience i see rich people in top hats and suits smoking ciggars. when i picture a MMA audience i picture 15 year olds who were watching WWE a week ago and rednecks who make 20 grand a year

boxing is for spicks
i want tug-ofwar
>> Anonymous
>>278407
When I picture a boxing audience, I picture empty seats . . . because it's pretty much dead as a spectator sport now. I can't even tell you who the heavyweight champion is at the moment, and I don't think anyone I know can.

Would someone care to explain how the Christ baseball is less of an Olympic sport than equestrian?
>> Anonymous
mma in headgear? lolwut
>> Anonymous
>>278416
Hey, you're right! I think there are like 5 HW world champs now and I couldn't name a single one.
>> Anonymous
>>278417
almost nobody cares about Baseball, only Americans and Japaneses

I'm for tug of war in Olympics again
>> Anonymous
>>278435
Okay, but what are there, six eighty-something year-old billionaires on the planet that care about equestrian?

Besides, it just doesn't seem like a very athletic sport and the horse is doing most of the work anyways. Same goes for sailing.

There is two simple reasons for boxing sucking right now.
One: Too many goddamn belts within each weight class, instead of one belt for each weight class.
Two: Too man boxing fights on PPV, and too expensive in price. It's something around 40-60 US dollars for a major fight. Nobody is going to pay for that unless it's the absolute biggest fight, and only one or two fights in the last 10 years have hit the level. Otherwise, it's a gigantic rip-off..........hell, even if it is the fight of the decade it's a rip-off. No wonder no one watches boxing any more; it's too fucking expensive!
>> Anonymous
>>278461

for me three is even more important

three: too long period between championship fights. when someone wins a belt he then first fights in couple of years, then again long period of rest, an injury during which you don't loose nothing, and then he fights against some 40 year old nobody.

fights should be sumo style. every couple of months tournament, you fight again everyone and prove your worth if your not there hand over the belt,

yeah, i couldn't even tell you when the last heavyweight contention fight took place. Which is sad because my group of friends generally get together and bbq and watch em. We haven't done so for boxing for the last 5 years or so now, it's just gradually phased out as we started to watch UFC instead.

this is the part where I highlight that MMA (as Pankration) was one of the original Olympic events, being introduced around 400 BC and bearing an almost identical likeness to what we call MMA today -- there's precedent for it being an Olympic event but the faggots in the IOC would almost inevitably fuck it up.
>> Black ? Star !x8ngkAZjXE
after watching olympic boxing I don't even want to see it.
>> Anonymous
>>278435
Uh, baseball is huge in Latin America too, artard.

But I would love to see Forrest Griffin with Olympic gold. That would be the shit.
>> Black ? Star !x8ngkAZjXE
>>278837

You really think he would get gold? he is the definition of a paper champion if I ever seen one. I can't see him being favored against ANYONE he fights next.

Chuck, Wandy, Rematch with Rampage, Machida, Even rashad should be the favorite in the match.

IOC would fuck up Pankration by adding an arbitrary point system and make them stop every time someone got a point.

Imagine the shitty old RINGS rules, with way more padding. Not ideal by any means but it would be nice.
>>278347
The cage is more practical than the ring by far. The cage makes it less likely for the athletes to fall out and get injured, not only that but it makes it so that the referee does not have to CONSTANTLY stop the action and move the fighters back to the center of the ring.
Another problem with Olympic MMA would be the fact that a tournament would be almost impossible without highly modified rules, fighters just tend to take too much damage to be able to fight at 100% or close to it without about 2 months rest.
>> Anonymous
Olympic MMA would probably be even more ridiculous than Olympic boxing.

You'd get a point for a landing a punch, a point for landing a kick, and a point for a takedown. And like Olympic boxing the scoring would be laden with errors.

MMA is gay

Cage fighting is so gay. I love it.

Could they just have Olympic no-gi submission grappling? May be too similar to judo though.
>> Anonymous
>>279455

I think that would be a great Olympic sport. Not very similar to Judo at all, fighters would be using wrestling techniques and going for more submissions. Also, in Judo matches competitors get stood up quite often, in submission grappling fighters are only moved back when they go outside the mat.
