start with this fight between Don Frye and Yoshihiro Takayama. It sure isn't technical but it shows you how exciting a fight can be for a new fan and hook you. After you are familiar with the product then start to watch ground and submission specialists.

OP here, thanks guys, i'll be sure to look around for all those fights.

I've seen maybe 5 or 6 full fights, not including tuf7, which was where I started to get hooked, and I'm really big on the grind-out close matches. I tried to watch that elite xc event on cbs but I just couldn't stand to listen to the crowd on probably the only decent men's fight of the night (Lawler v Smith).

Any other suggestions for epic fights?

I'd like to introduce to a sport called Boxing. It is similar to mma except the warriors are not allowed to roll around on the floor like pussies. MMA was started when average white men were tired of getting their asses kicked by minorities and started their own club. Boxing has been around for over 100 years and will be around when MMA is a forgotten memory. Some people might tell you boxing is dying. Boxings fan base has shrunk because it if only shown on premium cable and pay-per-view required because of the insane amounts of money great Boxers deserve (much more than an MMA star). Luckily you have the internet and can download every fight free of charge. Since you are an MMA fan I will assume you are white and suggest a young, white, rising star to get your feet wet. Kelly Pavlik. All of his fights are lessons in how to be a man, Pavlik vs Edison Miranda in particular is a true war. After this watch the Aryuro Gatti - Mickey ward trilogy. Later watch Mexican Icons Israel Vasquez and Rafael Marquez in the most epic trilogy since Star Wars. After you have learned to appreciate the Sweet Science you can watch classic battles of yesterday such as Frazier-Ali, Hagler-Hearns, LaMotta-Robinson, Taylor-Chavez, Barraera-Morales, Corrales-Castillo, and literally thousands more. Hope that helped.

>BAWWWWWWW my favorite sport sucks and is dying.

I can tell you think the same thing by your way to long explanation.

I like mma because it is a bunch of disciplines of fighting in one, not just boxing. Maybe through the eyes of a handicapped person you think all the fighters are doing is "rolling around" but they are doing a lot more then that.

I am not going to explain because you wouldn't understand anyways.
>>
>>147952
They may be trying very hard to get in their boring arm-bars and chokes, but it's not as bad ass as two men throwing their fists in rage, which is awesome in mma when it happens for three seconds before they hit the mat.
>> Anonymous
Not a sport.
>> Anonymous
>>150052
Except the punches actually do damage in MMA, whereas boxers are wearing pillows on their hands.
>> Anonymous
>>150057

Yeah, plus no standing eight, so in essence you get to see less face punching because it's all one and done.

Plus MMA striking is 99% of the time just looping Xyence haymakers anyway, where people think the right hook (from a rightie) is a legit punch.

I can appreciate a competition to figure out who the toughest guy is, but it's not a sport.

>>147831

Why do niggers assume that MMA is a white man's sport? Why do niggers assume that people haet boxing because it has too much niggers?

MMA is just as international as boxing, with a heavy presence in Asia, Europe, and South America. Currently, none of UFC's belt is owned by a white american.

Boxing's cool, but seriously, it and MMA are two different animals. Bash MMA all you want, but it's the natural end product of all fighting. Boxing may have been around for a billion years, but it's going the way of the dinosaur.

Can't think of any MMA matches off the top of my head, but I remember watching Mark Hunt vs Wanderlei Silva and thinking that was magical.

Boxing gloves are to protect fighters hands, not opponents faces.

>>150217
People said boxing was dead before Ali ushered in the greatest era in heavyweight history. They said it again before Tyson showed up. Its been said for years, but here its still here. MMAs rise has forced boxing promoters to put together better cards though.
>> RANDY COUTURE

>> Anonymous
>>150271Boxing gloves are to protect fighters hands, not opponents faces.

The boxing glove weakens the punch in two ways:

1. The padding allows the fist to decelerate over a longer distance, which lessens the amount of force transfered to the face. That extra inch of padding really do make a difference.

2. The larger boxing gloves makes it easier for the opponent to block or deflect punches. There are a lot of partially blocked punches in boxing, that's why you'll see boxers take 20 punches in the face without falling down.

also lol at whoever said right hooks aren't legit punching techniques. Without boxing faggoty extra large gloves you'd be surprised what you can slip through. In boxing they suck, in real life and MMA it's harder to block punches.
>> Anonymous
Smaller gloves, harder to track. Best alternatives to blocking would be evading and parrying. But the former seems to be based on how accurate punches are and the latter I rarely see it used effectively.
>> Anonymous
>>151365
You could say evading is the best way to defend any strike. The thing boxing fans don't understand about MMA is that boxings way of striking just doesn't work in this format. Planting your feet to throw hard would lead to getting taken down. Traditional boxing defenses are so wide open to kicks. It's the same reason a kick boxer will always beat a boxer, boxings a very limited form of striking. Having way more variables might lead to something that doesn't look as mechanical, but honestly its a hell of a lot more interesting to me.

I'm not surprised someone who watches UFC thinks this way. Hell it barely even gets used in the UFC anymore to their credit. But it's not uncommon to see it from one of those reality show scrubs who just stand and windmill, who unfortunately make up the fodder for most UFC shows.

There's so much great stuff in Pride, the only problem is there's an equal ammount of freak fights (which are kind of fun in a way) and gimmies for fan favorites (Sakuraba and the ridiculous cans they found for him to fight).

The Pride Heavyweight division was the shit. Fedor, Nogeiura, Crocop, Randleman, Mark Hunt, Fujita, Bob Sapp (B^U). Good stuff.
>> Anonymous
>>150228
The Gracies are all a bunch of stupid crybabies. They only agree to fight under the most retarded rules, refuse to tap out when they lose, and just plain suck at fighting. It's always pretty amusing when leagions of Gracies rush the ring and try to start shit after they get subbed by Sakuraba or someone though. Yoshida gi choking Royce into unconciousness because he refused to tap was also awesome.

Bottom line: The Gracies are stupid babies.

Oh god, any fight with Sylvia is a fucking joke. Just uses his reach advantage, he's a fuckin hack.

Take a look at Clay Guida v. Tyson Griffin if you want to see a great mesh of everything. Good striking and clinch work, transitions and jujitsu. Stay away form the heavyweight fights, they'll bore the shit out of you. 155 is a great weightclass to watch.

At the boxing baaawwers, don't kid yourselves. Boxing is a great sport - but only incorporated into MMA. And even then, Muay Thai is generally the kind that really rips shit up.

You get a great boxer against a decent MMA guy, it'll be on the ground in seconds.

Did you watch Sylvia's fights against Noguiera and Couture? Both were surprisingly good fights. Sylvia was actually aggressive and beat the shit out of Nogueira for two rounds, before Nogueira pulled out a sweet jujiutsu takedown. And the Couture/Sylvia fight looked like Mike Tyson's Punchout, with the smaller Couture outboxing the bigger Sylvia for five rounds.
>> Anonymous
>>153380

Exactly, even against a smaller Couture, he just seemed to sorta loll around the ring, not really pressing any sort of offense. And when Couture had him on the ground? Tim sat there like a goddamn log and waited for McCarthy to stand them up.

Which he didn't, but still. Goddamn.
