Hay /hoc/ guyz, Habsfag here...

Canada is taking back the Stanley Cup, and it will be the Montreal Canadiens that will do it.

VIVE LES HABITANTS!!!!!!! (Translation: Go Habs Go!)

I'd prefer they win it next season for their 100 year anniversary (or fuck, back to back), but they look like they could take it this season.

I have a feeling Montreal Canadiens will continue the trend of Canadian Teams making it to the Stanly Cup Finals and becoming so close to winning it all, until a 1 in 1000,000 freak accident happens that makes them lose.

How do you rank defence? Do you rank it in terms of fewest Goals Against (because Pittsburgh plays in a divison where the only major scorer is Jagr) or do you rank it by the talent level of their defencemen (because Pittsburgh's only notable defencemen is Gonchar, and he's a offencive defencemen)

Also, it's not about their defence so much as it's about their toughness (last years playoffs they got roughed by the Sens) and their goaltending (last time Fleury and Conklin were in the playoffs they both chocked)
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>43052

>Also, it's not about their defence so much as it's about their toughness

Gill, Laraque, Malone, Roberts and Ruutu

>or do you rank it by the talent level of their defencemen

Young players getting much better. One more year of maturation under their belt.

>goaltending

Fleury has been playing out of his mind the last 11 games. Conklin has been the comeback player of the year so far.

This sign describes Sidney Crosby perfectly.

Fucker can't backcheck for shit. Heck, the NHL protects this little faggot by allowing refs to make bullshit calls on the D to give Crosby and his merry band of faggots the Powerplay advantage.

If the Pens win the Cup, it will be due to bullshit officiating. You know, much like when the Miami Heat won the NBA title...

In addition to constantly sucking Sidney 'Poster Child For Everything Shitty About The New NHL' Crosby's cock, CB also wants NHL teams to stay put in the Southeast and to expand into Europe instead of ready and able markets further north.

CB is a disguised Gary Bettman.
>> Anonymous
>>43267

I have no problem with the Southeast division. I live in the South and I'm thankful that where I live, there's a pro hockey team. I love hockey and I love the team that represents my area. Granted, they suck, but whatever...they're the home team.
>> Anonymous
>>43267

A decent point, but speaking as a Milwaukee Admirals fan, I'm not entirely sure how well an NHL franchise would do in Milwaukee, for example. There's a lot of hockey love in Wisconsin, yet Admirals games only draw a few thousand per game. I don't know if this would change with an NHL team carrying brand name association, but it's something to consider. As much as cities like Rockford and the like could easily have an NHL team, would they honestly get more people through the turnstiles than teams like Carolina or Dallas? I honestly don't know, so any southern hockey fans that want to reply, I'm pretty curious.

Okay...Wilds fans:

Yes, we all know that Goalies and defense win championships, yada yada yada. I'll say this: Backstrom is a great goalie, and the Wild play one of the best defensive styles of hockey out there.

but...The only pure goal scorer is Gaborik, and the Senators proved last year that you need more than one line to win the cup.

This weakness is especially apparent when the wild are compared with Anaheim or Detroit--teams that have very good defenses, but two or three lines of scoring potential.

The wild do not have the offensive depth to go to the cup. End of discussion.

>>43107
I hope you are wrong about this. In fact the Wings have show great improvement last year. They actually got to the conference finals! Maybe we can actually get to the cup this year?

Speaking of which, SI polled players of the NHL to see who they thought would win the Stanley Cup. (You can't vote for your own team)
Detroit - 62%
Ducks - 20%
Montreal - 1%
(Those are the only 3 that stick out in my mind. I can't remember the rest)
>> Anonymous
>>43708
last year, Detroit struggled to top even its own division for most of the year and made it the furthest they've gone in the playoffs since they last one it. The last few years they waltzed into top spot and got booted in the 1st/2nd round. If anything some competition right till the end could be the best thing for the Wings. Hell, they might even benefit from the change in perspective of not topping the conference.
>> Anonymous
>>43712

Well, then again, the wings have been having a lot more trouble with Central opponents this year than with anybody else. The Preds and more importantly, the blackhawks, haave been the only teams to consistently beat the wings, even when they're playing at top form.

It's been the wings dominance over the REST of the NHL that's gotten them the lead in the Central.

Frankly, I'd like to see the sharks get close to the wings in points. It'd give the wings something to play for, now that they've locked up a playoff spot so early, it's hard to keep focused.
>> Anonymous
>>43797
I was going to say that they have struggled against their own division. In fact I think they are 500 or just above 500 against the teams in the central.
