Being a Cubs fan is an trendy pick because of ESPN and the fucking curse.

I figured out why everyone hates Boston, and rightfully so. In 2003, a lot of people felt bad for them and jumped on the bandwagon, even if just for the playoffs. Then they won, and those ignorant FUCKHOLE fans felt they were entitled. Now these ignorant, arrogant fucks still feel that way... and it causes everyone to hate them. Boston has the worst fans in history. Yes, they support their teams, but they're the biggest assholes in sports... period.

Sure there are some Red Sox bandwagon fans now, but they've always had a great fanbase through the decades of losing. Some people are just too butthurt to realize this.

But nevertheless, we shouldn't get trolled over it. As has already been pointed out in this thread, it is impossible for a team to string together a few successful seasons without /sp/ accusing each one of said team's fans of being bandwagon fans. Just ignore the butthurt ones.

>> Anonymous
>>388010

I measure bandwagon fans by how many of them show up in towns that are not Boston.

The best example of this is in Tampa Bay, where home games against the Red Sox averaged less than the season average for home games until the last series of 2004 (when the Red Sox had clinched a playoff berth). Since then, Rays home games against the Red Sox have had the highest average attendance of any games.

Either tens of thousands of Bostonians moved to Tampa Bay in the fall of 2004, or tens of thousands of idiots decided to join the bandwagon.

Average attendance of a Boston Red Sox @ Rays game (followed by the season average for all games at the Trop that season):

2007: 27,487 (average: 17,148) = "Red Sox Nation" boost of 10,339 or 60% increase
2006: 24,690 (average: 16,901) = "Red Sox Nation" boost of 7,789 or 46% increase
2005: 24,055 (average: 14,052) = "Red Sox Nation" boost of 10,003 or 71% increase
_____
2004: 17,671 (average: 16,139) = "Red Sox Nation" boost of 1,532 or 9% increase
2003: 16,001 (average: 13,070) = "Red Sox Nation" boost of 2,931 or 22% increase

Fair to say. Another good measurement is by how many Sox fans are at random road games anywhere. I listen to lots on XM radio and I always hear the "Lets go Red Sox" all the way out in California.

Red Sox fans have a strong precense accross the country. I live in Kentucky and there are definitely more Sox fans here than of any other team.

The red sox have a lot of fans because there are so many colleges in the surrounding area. Once they graduate they move on to new cities. Cubs fan here, and thats exactly how I feel about most of our fans.

It's been hell listening to Johnny B (97.9) in the morning and having these whiny assholes call up and say, "I HAVE BEEN A CUBS FAN FOR OVER 30 YEARS, AND I AM OWED A WORLD SERIES." Bullshit! You aren't owed anything except maybe a punch in the face.

Lets take a look at our Hockey Team shall we? The Hawks haven't won the Cup since 1961 (longest in the NHL) or have been in the finals since '67 (40 years). Some (including myself) have suffered through the miserable Bill Wirtz era, where ticket prices were spiked, Home games got taken off of local television, and all of the talent we had got traded away for cash. And it really hurt when Pat Foley left the announcers position and went to the Wolves (Chicago's AHL team). Yet I remained optimistic and knew that one of these day's the pain of this franchise would end.

Then on September 26th 2007, the miserable greedy asshole died of cancer...

Being at that first game of the season and listening to the fans "boo" his memorial put a nice grin on my face.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEHxmxXDhhM

I am so stoked for this season. Even if the Hawks don't make it the playoffs this year, I am glad that quality hockey has returned to this franchise.

So even though the Cubs got swept in the first round, I am still happy for a 97-64 season that had so many great moments from Zambrano's no-no, to the 8 run rally in 2 innings against Colorado.

So Cubs fans who are complaining about getting swept, SHUT THE FUCK UP AND TAKE SOMETHING POSITIVE OUT OF THE SEASON!!!!

Even though I am a Red Wings fag, I kind of pittied the Blackhawks, if only because their owner was possibly the most retarded douchebag in the history of professional sports.

In addition, I personally have felt it sucks that the Wings/Blackhawks rivalry is now non-existent, which is really a pity when you consider that the Chicago and Detroit teams in other sports leagues usually have rivalries with one another, and that there should be a big rivalry between the Wings and Blackhawks because both Detroit and Chicago are part of the Original Six.
>> Anonymous
What the NHL needs to do is get rid of all the warm weather cities. Then they need to create two conferences, one Canadian, one American. The best way to trick americans into watching hockey is to give them the opportunity to make fun of Canadians. Trust me this would work.
