There are a lot of strange "curses" in sport. We all know about the Curse of the Bambino, the Curse of the Billy Goat, and dozens of other obscure curses. But one may finally be broken today.

In all the major American team sports, the runner-up from the 1993 season has never won the championship since. These teams are the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL, the Phoenix Suns of the NBA, the Philadelphia Phillies of MLB, the Buffalo Bills of the NFL (who lost the Super Bowl in 1993 AND the one for the 1993 season in '94), and University of Notre Dame football. Since 1993, Notre Dame has not won a single postseason game, and Buffalo has not won any playoff game except for a wild card game in 1995.

That brings us to the Philadelphia Phillies. The Phillies had not made the playoffs from 1994 until 2007 when they were swept by the Colorado Rockies in the NLDS. This year, however, the Phillies defeated the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS in four games, and the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS in five. They are now up on the Rays three games to one. Game Five was called in the middle of the sixth inning on account of rain, with the contest tied at two runs apiece.

Will the Phillies break the curse of 1993? Only time can tell. The forecast for tonight is cold and rainy, so we may not know for a few days. But the Rays beat my Sox in the ALCS, so I say fuck 'em. Go Phillies!

What kind of gay curse is this?

Don't you think the Curse of 10,000 Losses and No Major Championship Since '83 is more significant to Philly?

The only curse anyone in Philly cares about is The Curse of Billy Penn. Which is totally real by the way. But now that he's rightfully back atop the city on the Comcast building, the curse will be broken. Phils, Flyers, Eagles and Sixers will now all win championships within the next 4 years... or at least they should

Sixers have a better shot then the Eagles. They play in the east but they're gonna be good this year once they gel.

I would say the Eagles have a decent shot because the NFL is more prone to fuckups costing teams the whole season. The 1-shot playoff system makes this happen, and I think they DO have a shot of getting into the playoffs because their entire division is vastly overrated. 5 and 7 game series in the playoffs are superior, NFL athletes are spoiled.

*ques up the Jim Mora speech*
Playoffs? PLAYOFFS?

I'm a Phillyfag and I know better then to think the Eagles can win this year. McNabb will NEVER win a superbowl.

The world series has been played 500 times within the last year, and each time it was the Phillies winning. The Phillies are a winner and I'll tell you why in 5 ways. First, the Phillies are incredible at offense. They are also incredibble at defense. Most players should be embarassed that they cannot play like Jimmy Rollins. Not only should they be embarassed, they do not have to be. They already are. Two more points to be made, and this thing is wrapped up. The pitchers on the Phillies rock supreme. They might as well be called the "Squadron Supreme." It is a comic book I bought at a particular store that sells comic books. The Phillies would rather die than to lose, do you see what I am telling you? They are not going to die.

15 years is not a curse.

50 years would be a curse.

I think the 100 seasons of failure is more important to Phillyfags

25 years x 4 teams =100 seasons of fail
