Eurofag here, I just noticed the NFL was starting tonight, and that one match is shown here so I can watch it. New York - Washington. I might try to sleep from now until then (as It starts 01:00 local time ;P)

Question for america, which team will win this match?
>> Anonymous
I have a few eurofag friends who make the effort to watch American football, he just watches the "early" games on Sundays though. God speed to you for rescheduling your life to become more knowledgeable on the subject. /sp/ needs more of your kind.
>>
its a game, not a match
>> Anonymous
Giants should win, Redskins have a rookie coach and an inexperienced quarterback.
>> Anonymous
it's on sky sports, along with tonnes of matches on sundays.

us regular joes though have to settle for the monday night games on channel 5. however we get matches WITHOUT adverts and every time america takes an ad-break we get highlights and match analysis from the british studio (inc. token yank) - fucking awesome

hehe Im not really rescheduling, I've just have a fucked up circadian rhythm at the moment, so sports at 1/2 in the morning is perfect (translation of the word came from wikipedia)

We (Sweden) only get sorta local commercials (at least that's how it was last year) or some sort of commercials from "NFL International" when they showed game play from Madden 2007(or 8) and had a voice over talk about players :)

I'm glad there are some in europe making an effort to watch NFL. I'm an amerifag and I can't watch live EPL, but I downloaded a couple of matches from last week. Good games. Chelsea looked awesome.

When watching this NFL, just remember that New York are the defending champions and Washington is making poor attempts of just being an upstart team. However, New York just lost two big keys of their defense in the offseason.

Luckily for us, it was our most stacked position

Redskins have Colt Brennan, thus they will win.

he'll be starting by week 6

The Giants whole advantage coming into a game is pass rush, which is really no better than any other team's now. They won't be what you expect from "defending champs." Skins have a very good chance of winning despite what's been said, they beat them last year when they were a better team.

such talent is wasted there in washington.

10 games more than enough time for him to runaway with RotY and MVP

Your line is shit right now.

I say Washington. I like that defense + Jason Taylor more than I like the Giants' defense - Strahan and Umenyiora.

Campbell sucks but that won't matter; both QBs are going to get buried.

yeah im a britfag and i love the NFL, we get 3 games on a sunday 6pm/9pm/1am and sometimes they show 3 games at once and you can choose which you watch with the red button thing.

Apart from that 5 is showing ALOT more games this season and NO ad breaks + Mike Carlson.

Should be a good game, so glad the NFL is back, see you fuckers at wembley!
>> Anonymous
is this at the giants stadium or at the redskins?
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
I think a lot of people across the country are underestimating Jason Campbell.

That being said, I still expect New York to win this game.

Ok lets say im a english and i enjoyed riding the bandwagon when it comes to international sports.

Should i be saying im a Patriots Fan?

Cowboys/Colts?
>> Anonymous
>>314153

do you guys have like a big four? the teams that always get to the finals/semis?

obviously 18-1, but who else is kinda always assumed to get to the last 4
>> Anonymous
>>314254
no
we have drafts and salary caps in the nfl so a few teams cannot dominate every year

you should try it sometime

but the best four teams are probably
patriots
chargers
colts
cowboys
>> Anonymous
>>314254
Patriots and Colts are always in the hunt. People (Dallasfags and the national media) say the Cowboys are contenders every year, and every year they lose in the first or second round. Steelers are usually good but aren't juggernauts like the Pats and Colts. The Chargers seem to be entering consistently being good.

Other than that, the teams can vary wildly in terms of contending for a title.
>> Anonymous
ok i understand that EVENTUALLY the teams change because of the draft etc....

so what would the worst 4 teams be this year?

i might support one of these for a laugh, got to love underdogs. I know the raiders will be a bottom 4 team.

Raiders/Chiefs/Rams/Browns

Another britfag here, and I think the best thing about the NFL is the draft and salary cap, levelling it up a bit.

I think I read somewhere, however, that there was a possibility of doing away with the cap. Is this true, and if so likely at all? And what is the public feeling on the matter?
>> Anonymous
>>314298

I would be pissed if there was no cap.

The cap makes it possible for any team to win every year. That is great for the sport.

>Browns

You are a fucking idiot that knows shit about football.

>>314218

How's our line shit right now?

We have Kiwi who was our first round draft pick from a few years ago who is a natural DE, we have Tuck on the other end, we have Robbins and Cofield in the middle, and Alford and McDougle as backups.
>> Anonymous
>>314298
It would be a very bad thing.

Salary caps are what keeps the NFL and NBA so competitive.
To prove this all you need to do is look at what happened in the NBA west last year which shows that even if they play 82 games, if you keep the amount spent the same the talent will be close as well.

In the NFL you don't see teams as close in terms of wins, but its for the best that they keep all these caps in place to prevent it from turning into the MLB.

The last thing the NFL fans would need is the Pats being able to spend enough money to take all the good players like the Yankees...
>> Anonymous
>>314298
The current agreement between the Players Association, the NFL, and the Owners expires after 2010 I think. If they don't reach a new agreement by then there will be no salary cap in 2011, very unlikely to happen, but possible.

San Fransisco didn't make any of these lists? Maybe there IS light at the end of the tunnel...

It's going to come down to Jacobs vs. Portis, as both QB's are going to have fairly poor performances.
>> Anonymous
>>314374
Yes, I'm sure he'll pull his hamstring in tonights game and miss the next 3 like he always does.
>> Anonymous
Over/Under 5 picks for the game?
>> Anonymous
>>314365
Maybe... we'll just have to see. He is supposed to be the best safety in the '08 draft class.

Landry hits so hard it makes my teeth hurt. I saw good things from Phillips in the preseason though, should be a good game for smash mouth football.
>> Anonymous
>>314385
Under, 2 for Campbell, 1 for Eli.
>> Anonymous
>>314380
I'm putting my faith in Eli for tonight's game. 2 TD's no picks. Jacobs will start off slow but as the night goes on the defense will get worn down by him (6'4" 265lbs) and then Bradshaw will come in and shit all over the Skins' D.
>> Anonymous
>>314395
>Bradshaw will come in and shit all over the Skins'
ew does this really happen in your american foot-ball?
>> Anonymous
>>314410
Well, there is Najeh Davenport...
>> Anonymous
>>314355
Seattlefag here, I think the 49ers will be improved. Underrated D and Alex Smith isn't the QB, so they should be hovering around .500, IMO. They'll definitely be better than the Cardinals, who will fail as the trendy sleeper pick like they do every year.

Also, Patrick Willis is a beast.
>> Anonymous
>>314423

Yeah, I'm getting REAL tired of this AZ DARK HORSE LOLOL shit every year. Underachieving does not necessitate Great Potential. Sometimes, your organization just sucks.
>> Anonymous
>>314437
The funny thing about dark horse is that they are supposed to be the underdog that nobody expects to have a chance.

To call a team a dark horse at the beginning of a season by definition disqualifies them from being one. Also, 99 times out of 100 they fail hard.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
>>314355

San Fran has a VERY underrated defense and it's entirely possible Martz will solve enough of their offensive problems that their D will be able to play up to its potential.

Plus Alex Smith is out.
