Well, if you're talking about the Joe Montana/Steve Young/hell, even Jeff Garcia heyday, then yes, this team is God Tier. It's hard to argue against a team that has 5 Super Bowl victories in its 5 appearances in the big game, and hard to argue against a legacy of pinnacle performances by the individuals of the 49er organization.
And shame on you for calling me a bandwagoner. I was born and raised to love this team no matter what. Granted, it's hard to watch now, and like Singletary, I have to come to terms with the current state of our team. Like my grandfather during the Kezar years, I'll have to weather this storm, but in no way am I a bandwagoneer. At some point, I know this team will turn it around. It may not be this year, and it may not be next year. God knows it's hard to live up to the Bill Walsh dynasty of old, and hard to live up to Mariucci's days as head coach, but I know this team will turn it around.
As of now, my understanding is that they aren't the God Tier material they once were, but I'm confident, one day, they will be.
