Hey guys, I kick players who have not been convicted of a single felony out of the league for a couple of years. While I'm busy doing that, I give an organization and coach who cheats and spies on rival teams a slap on the wrist while I ignore them playing players during practice who are on IR. I sure enjoy being called the guy who's cleaning up all the trouble makers despite that label being completely false.

The issue is not that the Pats spied. All teams do that. The issue is that they taped the opposing team from their own sideline, instead of an approved enclosed taping booth.

The 2006 memo was very clear that coaches tape could only be taken from places inaccessible to the sideline, not on the sideline itself. Yet on many occasions Pats video personnel were seen on the sidelines.

Now, there has been no evidence the Pats used the situation to cheat during 2006 - i.e. look at coaches tape during the game - but I'm glad Goodell put a stop to that shit before somebody did start cheating.

It's like Clinton Portis wearing his own socks. If you let him do it, soon players will be wearing the other team's jersey to cheat.

It's as if the new management is trying to keep the '30+ , white and middle to upper class' segment of the NFL watching population happy. Of course with buisnessmen it's a dollars and cents game, I'm just suprised that the rich whiteys contribute more income to the league than the unwashed masses like us.

I honestly don't understand all this. The Broncos cheated the salary cap, the 49ers cheated the salary cap AND tampered with players, Al Davis has all but admitted to having bugged the opponents locker room, Steelers were known to have used steroids (not technically illegal by the then NFL drug "policy", I know), the Cowboys were repeatedly fined for not disclosing injuries, Vikings got nailed for swapping player jerseys during games, and on and on...

and all everyone talks about is the Pats being cheaters? I'm sorry, but if that's the standard, at least half the teams in the NFL deserve asterisks.

Cheating is cheating. It doesn't matter how much it helped the cheater. It doesn't matter if everyone is doing it. If a cheater is caught, they must be punished to the full extent. Anyone that has ever run a card game can tell you as much.
There cannot be variable punishments for how much cheating happened, how much it helped or how common it is. It only emboldens those seeking an unfair advantage. It completely negates the idea of a competition. There is no small cheating or big cheating, only cheating.

>It doesn't matter if everyone is doing it.

Actually that does matter. When everyone cheats, cheating isn't cheating anymore, its common practice. Once someone realizes they've been cheating in a room full of cheaters and they're the only one who failed the test, you're saying thats still the only instance of cheating in the room? Even though the rest of the room was doing it, and was seen doing so but werent placed into some sort of asterisk category, that doesnt mean that one team should be classified as any more of a cheat than others.

Tl;dr, the pats didnt cheat, the league cheated by letting everyone cheat. In essence, nothing at all has happened, because the chain of cheating is so long now, everyone has lost sight of the objective of the game. Playing and winning with heart and honor.
