New to the NFL and don't know which team to root for? I've made this handy guide!

1. Don't be a bandwagon faggot! This is the most important step. That means do not be a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Pittsburgh Steelers, or New England Patriots.
2. Choose a team that has a long history and tradition. Which means don't choose any team that didn't exist before 1970.
3. Don't be a fan of any team that moved, because that is bullshit. That means the Indy Colts, Baltimore Ravens, and St. Louis Rams are right out.
4. Don't be a fan of any teams that have retarded owners. Raiders, Bengals and Lions, I'm looking at you.
5. Now, of all the teams that are left, pick one randomly. You really can't go wrong if you followed the previous steps. It's just that simple!
>> Anonymous
That leaves the Browns, the Packers...
>> Anonymous
As a Redskinsfag, we don't want you.
>> Anonymous
Fuck off, even though the ownership is terrible and we haven't had success in a couple decades, if you aren't a Bengals fan then fuck you.

The Browns have a retarded owner, see step 4.

>bandwagon
>Steelers

Are you denying the Steelers have a bandwagon?
>> Anonymous
Fuck off. I have to be a fan of a new team. I LOVED my Houston Oilers but refuse to support the Tit...Tennessee oilers.

GO TEXANS!!!

Choose a team that has a long history and tradition. You mean like the Dallas Cowboys or the Pittsburgh Steelers?
>> Anonymous
>>446586
Steelers have one of the biggest bandwagons ever following the super bowl.
>> Anonymous
>>446594
Okay, fair enough. I will edit rule number 2. If you live in a city that used to have a team and it moved and you got a new one, you're allowed to root for that new team.
>> Anonymous
Steelers fans aren't bandwagoners. There are no jobs in pittsburgh, so when we move elsewhere, we bring our fandom with us, and raise our kids as such.

See rule 1.
>> Anonymous
I would argue that it's ok to be a fan of a bandwagon team ONLY if you live within say 75 miles of that city, and then ONLY if you agree to support them in down years too...

Nevermind, fuck Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Boston.

>>446591
The Steelers are not the Penguins. Pittsburgh has always had a lot of fans since the Steel Curtain.

>>446604
Thirty years ago, maybe. Pittsburgh had a meh season after Super Bowl XL. Fans that stick through that are not bandwagon.
>> Anonymous
if you start off as a bandwagoner (70's steelers) and then maintain your fandom through the years (now) do you become a legitimate fan? just a hypothetical
>> Anonymous
J-E-S-T JEST JEST JEST!!!
>> Anonymous
>>446671
Hm... I say you have to stay a fan of the team at least 10 years after they start to suck in order to no longer be part of the bandwagon.
>> Anonymous
>>446671
You stop being bandwagon when you keep you team through a losing season.

This requires a genuine dedication to following the team, though.
>> Anonymous
>>446671
Apparently not by /sp/'s standards.

You people cunt-flapping and bitching about bandwagoners are just as bad as they themselves.

1. Steelers aren't a bandwagon. They just have a lot of solid, faithful fans. ESPN said they have the best fans in football; http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/preview08/columns/story?id=3530077

2. Steelers have history and tradition. Their 70s dynasty was the best team in the history of football.

3. Steelers have never moved, except I guess in World War II when they merged with Philadelphia for a season.

4. Rooney family = Gods

5. Fuck random.

The typical rule is that you root for the team that is geographically closest to you.

This way, when you make big-people money, you can go to their games.

Unfortunately, if you move, you are not allowed to change allegeances. So I'm a cowboysfag stuck in Broncoland.
>> Anonymous
Can you be a bandwagon hater? I mean I've hated Dallas since I was a little kid. Being from houston meant you loved the Oilers and hated the Cowboys. But now I feel it's trendy to hate the Cowboys.
>> Anonymous
>>446750
Do you have evidence to the contrary, or are you just an incredible retard?
>> Anonymous
>>446784

Makes since. I group up in Virginia-Redskin country, so I was brought up with a devout hatred of the Cowboys.

But, shit, everyone has hated them after their Super Bowl runs in the 90's.

Although I think people are taking them up again in the Romo-era.

>>446801
That's what I mean though. Since blanket love for a team is seen as being a bandwagon fan, and a bad thing (I agree). I'm just curious if it's ok for everyone to hate one team, or if bandwagon hating is bad too.
>> Anonymous
>>446823
That's actually a pretty good question and one I'm not sure has been covered here at /sp/.

I'm inclined to say that yes it's possible to be a bandwagon hater and it's probably almost as bad as being a bandwagon fan. But then again... 18-1

>>446563

Anon speaks the truth. I was in Florida during the Spurrier years, and the bandwagoning was pathetic.

Being an old longhorns fan is almost as bad right now. Growing up I NEVER saw anyone else in longhorn shirts or hats. Now they're everywhere....they used to be A&M Faggies.

And in that way, maybe the loss yesterday wasn't to bad.

>don't be a bandwagon faggot
>colts, bears, 49ers, and packers are listed as options
lolwut?

what if you were born/raised/live in dallas/pittsburgh/new england?
how can you still be considered a bandwagoner if you root for your hometown team?
>> Anonymous
But i'm already an Eagles fan.
>> Anonymous
I don't give a shit if the Bengals suck, and their owner is a turd. When they win the super bowl in however many years, I will be the happiest man alive.
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
if you start cheering for them now you won't seem like a bandwagoning faggot when they win the super bowl in a few years and you can always shut cowboy faggots up by mentioning that all time the dolphins have a winning record against the cowboys and PERFECTVILLE POPULATION 1

just making my case
>> Anonymous
Be a Niners fan. What could be better than having a batshit insane head coach. It's why, even though I can't stand the state of Oklahoma, I love Oklahoma State. I'M A MAN! I'M 40!
>> Anonymous
>>446792

I for one think the Steelers have one of the worst fan bases in the league. I know many of them so go fuck yourself and deal with it, faggot.

>>447383I'M AN INCREDIBLE RETARD

Thanks for clearing that up.

Funny you should say that. I just moved from Austin, now live in Corpus Christi, and it's like they're passing out orange shirts to everyone crossing into Travis County.

The loss to Texas Tech will sober 'em a bit.

>>447441I'M STILL AN INCREDIBLE RETARD
Yeah, I heard you the first time. Seriously, if you want to talk shit about Pittsburgh's fans, you might want to bring something more to the party than DURRRRRR CAUSE I SAY SO HURRRRR.
