Interception Black ? Star !x8ngkAZjXE
Shouldn't there be a whole new statistic for the instance in which a qb throws a ball to a receiver and they bobble it and someone one the defense gets it after that?

Why is that termed an interception and why should that count against the qb?

Im referring to the specific instances in which the wr basically throws it into the defense's hands.

I have no idea why this hasn't been changed yet in a league where everyone looks at stats to compare qbs when you got receivers screwing up your qb rating.

I dunno, but there are a lot of statistics that don't tell the whole story.

Yesterday during the Vikings-Lions game, Jared Allen was credited with a sack when all he did was scare the Lions QB into running out of the end zone. True, his pressure is what caused him to run in the first place, but it was also the QB's fault for not paying attention.

What about passing yards for a QB? They record the yardage as the distance from the line of scrimmage to the end of the play. That's inaccurate... technically, they should only measure from where the QB threw the ball to where the receiver caught it. The current statistics don't distinguish between QBs who tend to throw long passes and ones who tend to throw short passes and then the receiver runs for most of the gain.

But none of that matters. Who honestly cares? Stats can only show so much anyway.

They account for YAC but only for the receiver. They still account for the yards thats gained by the receiver for the qb as it's a credit to qb for whom he decided to throw the ball to after reading the defense and other factors.

This particular instance is a negative which is wholly out of the hands of the qb. If your receiver throws it to the defense exactly as if they fumbled it. It should be counted against you at all.

And I am pretty sure there lots of players who care about their stats. Stats are what get you into the hall of fame, pro bowl, how much pay you warrant and etc. Even when you would have alot of these fumble interceptions people would just look at the stats rather than the cause of the interceptions themselves when wondering whether or not to hire you.

how about when a receiver runs the wrong route which causes the qb throw to a spot where the receiver is supposed to me and it instead gets plucked by a defender?

Every time a defensive player injures another teams player on offense, they need to make that an official stat.
