Ortiz has a shit contract because he wanted to stay here, Lowell's contract is average, Veritek's contract is completely nullified by his shit batting, and I don't even know what Bay and Kotsay make. Can't be that much.
tl;dr the Red Sox don't fling money around like the Yankees, they invest in their farm system more than just singing big players
