>>236130 Dirty Doug is appreciated here in Pgh, outside of here, I think people just notice his dugout demeanor, joking around during good times, but throwing shit during the bad.
Sanchez had a horrible start to the year. 3 months went by without him producing much more than double play balls. Rivas stepped in and covered a bunch of games, and Sanchez is now back in proper batting form. Just a few months too late for it to matter.
All in all, the trades will hurt the team a bit, until all of the pitchers we gained get some time in the big leagues. Harrerra pitched wonderful his 1st start, but then blew it big time his next 2. He's down in the minors right now getting some more starts, so I expect him to be back within a few weeks, give it another shot. Could have just been how important things were got to him after he pitched a great game, and was too nervous to keep it going. He's a good prospect, so he's worth it to keep trying.
Jeff Karstens pitched beautifully today. He made the game look easy. He pitched conservatively, going for routine ground balls and fly outs, rather than trying to strike out the side each inning. He was at 85 pitches when the first hit happened. That's fine though, a 2 hit SO CG against the diamondbacks.
Hell, he went 2/3 on the day, scoring a run as well.
As a Pirates fan, I'm obligated to say I hope next year will be better. But for once, this management team traded players during their top performance on the team, and didn't wait until they hit a slump, and try to offload them for basically nobody. We got 4 players for Nady and Marte (who pitched god awful for the yanks) and 4 for Bay.
I'd love for Nady and Bay to still be out there, so we could have 3 30hr outfielders, but I'll take that hit for some starting pitching. Maholm is about all we've had to look forward to. I only go to games he pitches anyways, because I hate seeing 6 runs in the top of the 1st from everyone else.
