MLS
Hey /sp/ Do any of you know if MLS will be getting any more import players with some skill? I live in San Diego so I go to see the Galaxy play quite a few times. I think the MLS would be more popular if they had a well known and talented Scorer . Maybe that tranny lover Ronaldo can come over since his career is nearly done there lol.

I THINK TORONTO SHOULD BUY CARRICK AND TEVES, THEY ARE GREAT PLAYERS GREAT QUALITY AND TERRY AND ANELKA, AND MAYBE OTHER PLAYERS IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL, EVEN THOUGH KAKA OR RONALDINHO AND TERRY HENRY WOULD BE SUPER GREAT OPTIONS TOO! THE MLS IS GOING TO BE SUPER GREAT GREAT SOON MARK MY WORDS!

Ronaldo's coming, Henry's coming, Ze Roberto's coming, Vieri's coming

MLS should be content to be a European retirement home

Douche bag... I am not saying Ashley Cole is en route to America any time soon. But there has to be some older players who have expiring contracts and want to try and milk there careers for a few more years. I would be satisfied with some High Quality Mexican players coming here.... yes... higher quality than Blanco.

Claude Makelele is getting pretty old.

Like I keep saying, MLS will not get any more popular any time soon. The league is still seen as a laughing stock to most of the world, not least for the fact that they regularly change their rules in order to attract big name players. The fundamental flaw is that these rules are wrong to implement in the first place. Before MLS can get any stronger as a league the people running it need to realise that to be a top league it cannot be run the same way the leagues in sports such as American football and baseball are run.

I bet if MLS had money to throw around, they can do what the NFL, NBA and MLB does and buy whoever the hell they wanted. And right now it's not about the quality. They could buy all the aging butthurt superstars and slot them in like salad dressing.

So I guess they do not have the money for it. I mean now would be the time to pimp the league. NHL is just as irrelevant as MLS. Why not take some chances while Beckham is still in the league. Spend some money and slot some aging talent in.

Is Beckham actually making a difference attendance-wise now the initial novelty factor is gone?

It's not about the money at all. MLS can afford big name players. The problem is that no-one wants to play in a shitty league. They don't even have relegation / promotion. The clubs have no control. This is the main problem with franchising in American sports. It's no longer a grassroots movement of clubs trying to improve themselves. It's all about selling the NFL/MLB/NBA/MLS brand.

Thats a bummer. But I can understand that.

Nothing else to say on the issue. The likes of Beckham will play in the MLS from time to time but there will never be a massive influx of quality foreign players.

>never

Because you can predict what happens for the rest of time, right?

>>113751
Don't be butthurt about the fact that the MLS sucks and will continue to do so until anybody with power wants to change things.
>> Anonymous
>>113769
Being butthurt =/= pointing out your massive overjudgement of time.

Predict or not, he is correct.

The MLS is not a seriously competative league, and quality players that actually want to compete at the top level and represent their countries properly would not even consider it until they were in the twilight of their career.

The difference is that Beckham still easily has the quality to play at the highest level for another season or two, it's a shame that he put his and his wife's future fortune and fame (as if they don't have enough already) over his career, but then again maybe he wanted to drop down a level. Either way I think it was a bad decision for him as he will probably regret not making the most of his last few years of being world class.

The MLS needs a home grown marketable face that they can sell to the public and shove him on a big market team, New York or LA. throw in some aging import stars and you have a resurgence. -fin.

I dont think he will regret living in LA over some piss hole city in spain or maybe a lesser club in the premier. Newcastle or whatever.
>> Anonymous
>>113810

I would totally agree. Less talk of him mving to Newcastle, though. I fucking hate the mags, thanks.

I think his decision was driven (somewhat short sightedly) by his 'falling out' with then England Manager Steve McClaren. At that time he must have thought his international asperations were over.

He could easily have moved back to the Premier League, a host of clubs would have been interested in him I'm sure. Shame, really.

But honestly, as you say, it shows his own lack of respect (without wanting to sound unduly cruel to the MLS) for his own proffession.

Tbh the only reason it carried on beyond Maca era England was so he could get that one more cap to make it 100.

In my opinion if England in two years time are at the world cup it will look something like:

--------Rooney---Agbonlahor----------------
Young---J.Cole/Gerrard---Hargreaves---Bentley
A.Cole-----Terry----Ferdinand-----Brown
------------------Kirkland------------------------

Wallcott, Defoe, Downing, Barry, Gerrard, Carrick, Richards, S.Taylor, Jagielka, Wheater, Green and Carson (the new Calamity James) making up the 23.

Capello might look at Carrick, King, Huddlestone, Wright-Phillips, Johnson, Lennon and Bent, Lampard. To be honest I'd rather see Lampard than Gerrard think it'll be the other way round.

put J.Cole in Young's spot, Gerrard in middle, and Lampard in Hargreaves spot with Hargreaves on the bench, and i'll agree

>>113891
Tell Lampard to stop being fat and make a shot without a deflection first for once, and i'll agree.

But i do agree about the Cole/Young switch.

If people weren't allowed to choose already used numbers, there would only ever be 100 all time players in every league of the world, and you wouldn't even get to see your sports, because all their players would be fucking dead.

P.S. Troll harder.

Hargreaves/Gerrard would give more of a threat from free kicks, and better cover at the back as well as up front.
