So, I've been thaiboxing for the last 4 years and dabbled in mixed martial arts back and forth during that time. Now, I have put thaiboxing aside and started to train seriously in MMA for about 5 months, and I have to say it's the most fun I've ever had with my clothes on. I've decided to participate in a grappling tournament that's due in two weeks, I really don't know how to do a whole lot of shit from my back, but fuck it - I'll do it for the lulz. Beginning to feel a bit nervous, how do /sp/ cope with competition nerves?

no one on /sp/ has ever competed in anything

If you're nervous of getting beat 2 weeks out that means either (a) you have no confidence or (b) you aren't working hard enough.

POSITIVE MENTAL ATTITUDE

I'm honest with myself, it's my first competition, and thinking about it gives me the butterflies. I'm not afraid to lose, what I'm scared of is going out there and not being able to be satisfied with my performance. That's why I'm training my ass off, because there are no guarantees.

From my experience with sport (ex-A's goalkeeper) just be extremely positive with yourself, keep telling yourself you can do it (and that its easy - but don't underestimate) also, I find that having a good song (metal + fast beat + possibly aggressive) in your head helps.

With that being said, always keep your head/confidence up even if you have a bad start because everyone messes up sometimes.

I'm not an native english speker, so I don't know if something got missed in translation here. To do thaiboxing is what it' called in my country, and if you think you are cool because you call it muay thai even though you're not living in Thailand, you're pathetic...

When I trained, I did full contact sparring with 12 oz gloves every session (yeah, "enjoy your brain damage") and did pretty well against people who went on to compete and rank high in national tournaments. Certainly not a McDojo.

So, as long as you're not an internationally acclaimed gym, you're a McDojo? Great resoning, maybe you should stop blocking punches with your head.

Is Semmy Schilt really a robot?

Dunno about being a robot, but his fights are some of the most boring shit fucking EVER.

Fucker keeps on throwing that shit jab of his until he gets his hands on the other guy and then just plain knees his skull in.
I would fucking riot if I had to pay for a ticket and then they had fucking Semmy in the headline.

Grappling is the easiest shit ever, you have nothing to worry about it's not like it's a wrestling meet or anything.
