Who here has comped tickets to a sports game?I understand that teams will comp tickets in an effort to boost attendance, hoping the attendees will spend money on concessions in an effort to make back the money on unused tickets. This is relatively common for baseball. Where I used to work, they used to have huge luncheons where they literally handed out Dodgers tickets to attendees--and good seats too (pic related). I've also got tickets comped to the Lakers, Clippers, and Kings. Now, I understand that where I live now (Miami, Florida), the same practice goes on. However, things are different here. The Miami Heat, despite having a really bad year, have really good attendance, and the Heat will almost never comp tickets. The Marlins are desperate for attendance and cold-call past clients to give away tickets. Same thing with the Florida Panthers. The Dolphins guarantee to sell-out every game due to the NFL blackout rule (the rule states that if a game doesn't sell out within 72 hours of kickoff, the game doesn't air). Hurricanes games (baseball, basketball, and especially football) have awesome attendance, as well.
Tickets are comped in Miami because if they don't, there wouldn't be anybody in the stands at all.
Remind me to move to a shitty sports market.
i'm gay
They don't do this in Phoenix unless you're rich, white, and influential.
