Most overrated center ever? He always had weight issue when he enter the league, every year after the 02-03 season his average falls down.
>> Anonymous
Maybe its because he peaked at 02-03? Idiot.

Shaq was a great center. Could have been better and had a longer career if he wasn't so lazy, but even so he was skilled and big enough to be one of the most dominating centers of all time.

What other center from the 90's should we be rating then? Big Z?

Shaq was one of the greats. I say was because his career is effectively over. I'd say Pat Ewing was the most overrated center of all time.

shaq has no athletic ability at all. he is in his position purely because of his size, so I have no respect for him.

ITT: underage fags who didn't watch Shaq in the 90s.

For one to be underrated, one must be rated first...

I'd agree mostly with that, Ewing has a body as big as shaq and shot jumpers most of the damn time.

>>125063
So you have never seen him play in the 90s? He was quick and could handle the ball. His skills declined because he stopped using them when he realized he was the most psychically dominate player in the history of the game.

>>125086

How about no faggot. Yes, he can score within 2 feet of the rim and rebound.

But when you're he size of a fucking monster truck, that's a requisite not anything exceptional. Also he got away with a lot of shit that an average center couldn't and he LOVED his chaos elbows.

I don't think you have a clue in the world as to who Patrick Ewing is.

Every year he put on weight and decide to just sit inside the paint.
>> Anonymous
Yes, you are an overrated center when you've been in the league 12+ years and still can't hit a damn free throw, or make a bucket from outside 4 feet of the fucking rim.

Shaq played rough because the referees allow defenders to maul him. Big guys never get the benefit of a doubt from referees (see Yao Ming)

I suppose it was just incidental that the referees also let him level people with his elbows and body slam people out of his way without calling offensive fouls too?

you're a stupid nigger. he could never ever hit foul shots/jump shots. sure, he had more bounce in his step in the 90s, but all he did was throw up 2 ft. jump hooks. how hard is that when you're tall enough to grab the rim without jumping?

...like I said - no athletic ability.

I am no fan of Shaq, but to say he's not one of the greatest center of all time is absurd. True, for a dominate player like him you would think his skill shouldn't decline to the point where he can't score 2 feet outside the basket, and that was during the 3 peat days, but to be a NBA starter and the primary option for nearly 10 years, it would be impossible for him to keep up for so long had he not keep himself in shape. What I do agree though, is that if he had great work ethnic, he could have done so much more. In a sense, he's a disappointment because he could potentially rival the likes of Kareem and Wilt, but will forever be remembered as a fat slug that was gifted with the right body.

Never worked on his free throws
Never kept his weight in check
Never really utilized his body on defense.

Great but greatest? I say no.

My top 3 favorite center of all time:

1.Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
2.Hakeem Olajuwon
3.David Robinson

Rumor is that he actually DID work on free throws a LOT when he was 3-4 years into the league (got to the point where he was 50% shooter with his eyes closed).

But once the game lights came on, all the free throw tech he'd worked on went out the window with the pressure. So I guess he just finally gave up on it and worked on... his... game.

more like most overWEIGHTED center ever

He hired a personal FT coach only to fire him in less than a year. Pressure wasn't the issue because he shot better in the 4th than any other quarters. He simply wasn't willing to improve if it means he has to work very hard to get it.
>> Anonymous
I heard that it was especially hard for Shaq to shoot FT's because his hands are so fucking big. He can't really rock the ball on his palms to shoot, and has to rather hold the ball with his fingertips.

Anyway, that may or may not be true, but I wonder why he didnt try underhand. Sure, you look like a bitch, but Barry shot 90% with it, so why not give it a try?
>> Anonymous
>>125750
Phil even said in his book that Shaq waved off any sort of help. Considering how Shaq acts I believe this. "I make them when they count" yet you throw away 50% of the free points you could've gotten. EVERY SINGLE ONE MATTERS
>> ????????????????????????????????????
>>125861
My brother is a real O'Neal cocksucker. He was trying to convince me Shaq always worked on his FTs.

>>125805
I heard that Rick Barry showed him how to shoot free throws under handed and he was good at it, but he's too ashamed to shoot them that way.

I got the story off of a link in hoopshype.

I <3 Shaq. He became fat and lazy and sort of a dick, but he's the last big personality in the NBA
