hmm...

terrible trade for the pistons..
>> Anonymous
Wow, this is amazing.

Seriously tho, I think it's a good trade for both teams.

Here's what I'm thinking about this:
Billups is underrated on offense. His age is catching up with him and he has a lot of trouble with fast guards (think Chris Paul v. Jason Kidd last year, only not that bad). He's better than Mr. No Defense Ever. How is Iverson supposed to fit in, anyway?

McDyess is over the hill and had to be gotten rid of eventually.

Guess we can just take the Pistons out of any talk about the Finals now
>> Anonymous
>>449697
They won't make the Finals this year, but this puts them in a good position for the 2009 Free Agents sweepstakes.
>> Anonymous
>>449692
Billups is still pretty good defensively. He's also bigger and stronger than most other point guards he's put up against. Macdyess will most likely get fewer minutes due to the clutter of bigs the nuggets have.

Iverson sucks on defense but he's going to a team that can cover for SOME of his many defensive lapses.
>> Anonymous
>>449704
But the good thing is he can provide the offense the Pistons need when they stagnant on offense against elite teams.
>> Anonymous
>>449708
yep, exactly. Hamilton is getting older too and he can't seem to score as easily as he used to.

A legit concern is if Iversons ball hogging will stunt the development of the pistons up and coming guards.
>> Anonymous
This is a great trade for the Nuggets. They get help defensively, stream the team down to one ball hog. I don't see how this helps the Pissed'Ons at all.
>> Anonymous
>>449720
Iverson is in the final year of his contract. If he comes over and sucks it hard, they can rebuild easily.
>> Anonymous
>>449724
I understand that, but it seems like they are preparing to rebuild when with the current team they still had a shot for another year or two. This makes the current season a wash for a team that was already going to make the playoffs. This won't get them back to the finals. Hell, might not even get them out of the first round.

After this year AI is done contract wise, over the next 2 years the pistons will have enough cap to sign 2 max deals and still have prince stuckey and most of their bench.

In 2 years The Melo Bosh Bron Wade draft class are free agents

just saying Stuckey Bron Prince Bosh and anybody is a hell of a team

Dumar should run for resident
>> Anonymous
>>449728
Come on, after last year everyone knows Stuckey can run this offense as good as Billups, Billups trying to play last year slowed this team down, AI is just icing on the cake and the one guy that can create his own shots

Billups pulling up for 3s was the only shot he could create any more, even taking the smaller guards down into the paint didnt work anymore
>> NEgreodamus the 9000th !3GqYIJ3Obs
Iverson is on his last leg
>> Anonymous
>>449728
Dumars doesn't want to just make the playoffs, he wants a title.

>>449746
He only needs one.
>> Anonymous
>>449746
Doesn't matter, with him and Sheed gone next year, Pistons have 27 million++ to throw at free agents. Hamilton may even be gone next year so Dumars is setting up for the future.
>> Anonymous
lol @ pistonfags on espn comments thinking they will get the goodtier FA's like wade/lebron/bosh/stoudamire, dream on
>> Anonymous
>>449769
Agreed. I remember when he came here (Denver) and there were fags all over the street ready to crown them! Some actually thought:

Carmelo: 30 PPG
AI: 30 PPG

OH FUCK!

Didn't turn out that way.
>> Anonymous
Like one anon said, Billups has lost the ability to drive and set up the jump shooters Detroit has, and has turned from Mr. Big Shot to Mr. Jump Shot.

Detroit traded three players who can't create on the offensive end for one who can. Hamilton and Sheed will benefit immensely from Iverson ability to get into the lane.

Now we'll just have to see if Curry and Dumars can squeeze some defense from Iverson or if he'll be gone in a year.

I am of the opinion Dumars generally knows what he's doing.

I don't see how this trade helps Detroit, how will Iverson help? By holding onto the ball until 1-2 seconds left on the shotclock and chucking into the air 25-30 times a game?
>> Anonymous
its all about money...once the season is over iverson will be free to go opening cap space for the pistons.

Nuggetsfag/CUfag here.

I was shocked when I heard. I'm going to miss AI.

But Chauncey and JR Smith? I can't wait.

Best case, the Nugs get better and AI gets his ring.

Welcome back to Colorado, Mr. Billups. Fuck yeah. This season got interesting for a Nuggetsfag.

As long as you still have MeloMan, you'll never make itt out of the first round.
>> Anonymous
>>450663
man has a point.

also, i think a lot of you undervalue AI's defense and passing. he wouldn't avarage 7+ assists if he can't pass out of double-teams or the pick-and-rolls he plays so well. plus, steals leader.

Chauncey Billups is a system point guard. He will not be good anywhere else.

what was Dumars thinking? SRSLY. Denver gave an oldish, over-injured gai for... Chauncey. forget about the throw infant. I guess If I was gm for any team I wouldn't trade for Iverson. Well, I would have in 2000. God Pistons steadily directed to fail.

Sorry Michigan.

Platoon player at best.

So I guess no one is reading about how trading for Iverson is part of a scheme to get Lebron? I'm interested to see if Dumars succeeds.

i mentioned it once up there and ill mention it again. None of the GODtier FA's will want to go to detroit fucking moron, which makes this plan FAIL, maybe you'll have some of the second tier FA's go but you better go play some 2k9 or something if you want to see lebron/wade/bosh/etc in a detroit uniform
