City aren't in the same league as Chelski yet, in terms of competing for the Premiership on financial terms. One of the new owners admitted as much saying something along the lines, of them looking towards next season more that this, I mean they only had about 6 hours to throw their weight around, it will be a different prospect once the transfer window opens again.
But I can imagine the lulz once Chelski starts showing interest in a player, only for City to step in, and the mega expensive bidding wars will erupt. This happened to a great extent between Man United and the Cockney's, for the example the furore over Obi Mikel.
But again this all depends whether City's new backers stick with the club. And indeed whether Mark Hughes stays, and whether possible discrepancies appear between players he wants and players he's forced to have.
