why would you think that arshavin is heading to london period?
zenit is one of the richest clubs in Europe right now. Their win against a SHITE Rangers side in the UEFA Cup final was no fluke, they have one of the best sides in Europe. They are set to compete in the CL next year, and they will be a force.
But in this case, this isnt a situation where Tottenham can simply buy a player. Zenit is sponsored by Gazprom, and in terms of market capitalization, they are the world's third largest corporation. Only PetroChina and ExxonMobil are larger. As such they have invested over £100 million since 2006. This money has been allocated primarily for a new stadium, player transfers, and wages.
When you compare this to typical kit sponsorships that usually are worth 10% of Zenit's deal....this is a club that is sponsored by a giant. With Gazprom's prominent links in the world's of heavy industry, finance, banking, media, and government; it is quite clear that this is an entity that dwarfs typical sponsorships in the football world.
Zenit can pay Arshavin whatever he wants. Nor are Zenit under any pressure to sell the player whatsoever. Unless someone like Barca, Chelsea, or mabye even Spurs if they were so inclined to pay something stupid to Zenit, there isnt a great financial inclination to sell the player.
This is the club Arshavin grew up with, and has played for since he was a youth player. He is only leaving for a giant club.....AND THATS NOT SPURS!!!!!
