While we enjoy watching the games of the olympics and watching China's dominance of the gold medal tally, let us take a moment to step back and remember china for what it is:

A totalitarian dictatorship nation with an inferiority complex due to getting raped by Japan and Britain in its history, and trying to make up for it by desperately trying to seek international approval by spending as much time, money and effort to extract every gold medal they can, while ignoring the things that actually matter: freedom of speech, human rights, and individual liberty.

The untold story as the Olympics are how well the Chinese have done at swimming events - they have 6 medals at swimming including one gold.

As the Chinese get richer - get moar nutrition/grow taller and stronger - this is only the beginning of Chinese dominance at the Olympics as the future only looks brighter for China.

Here's a small list.

The chinese can't:

-vote in other governments
-form opposition political parties
-surf an uncensored internet
-publish news articles without seeking approval from the government first
-criticize the government on the internet without them tracking down you from your IP, then "re-educating" you

Just a small list.

The big list is 9000x larger.

Gymnastics = 7 Medals (5 Gold)
Diving = 6 Medals (5 Gold)
Weightlifting = 9 Medals (8 Gold)

Judo = 4 Medals (3 Gold)
etc etc etc etc ...

Compare that with the US who won 31 (!!!!) Medals at swimming including 8 Golds from one person.

August 16th, 2008 - NBC Olympics record viewing for prime time coverage. NBC claims to have reached 180 million viewers in America with its recorded coverage of the Olympic Games in Beijing over the first week, 15 million more than for the event in Athens, with an average audience of 30 million in prime time.

The opening ceremony on Friday had an average audience of 35.7 million viewers from 8-11pm, the biggest prime time viewership for any network on any night since the Super Bowl. For NBC it was the most-watched primetime night since the series finale of Friends in 2004.

With viewership up, even among the coveted 18- to 34-year-olds, advertising during the Beijing Olympics may well pay off .

The 2008 Olympic Games in Bejing are a tour de force for marketers. By any measure, NBC's Olympics coverage (BusinessWeek.com, 8/7/08) has been a success. Through five days, NBC Universal says it has attracted 168 million total viewers for the Olympics, nearly 15 million more than for the first five days of the Summer Games in Athens four years ago. The average prime-time Olympic viewing audience has been 31.3 million viewers through Tuesday, Aug. 12, according to Nielsen Media Research.

More 18-to-34-year-old men are watching, which is a coup for NBC, since they are tough to attract to prime-time TV. Ratings among that group are up 28% compared with Athens. Among men aged 18 to 49, ratings are up 22%.

August 17th, 2008 - Interest in the Olympics is nearly certain to wane, but NBC can already claim its own medal. The games averaged 30 million prime-time viewers in its first eight nights -- "American Idol" numbers -- and NBC Universal said it has earned more than $10 million since the games began from new advertisers eager to climb on board.

It's also the first real sign of that broadcast television can recover from its debilitating strike of last winter and produce an event that draws the nation together.

Aug. 17, 2008 -The Networks of NBC Universal have reached 185 million total viewers, on pace to be the most watched Olympics ever, even surpassing the Atlanta Games. Through eight days the total viewership for the Beijing Games has already surpassed the total viewership for the entire Torino, Nagano and Albertville Games. The 30.0 million average viewers in primetime and the 17.4 rating/30 share, each represent significant gains compared to Athens in 2004.

1) Through eight days NBCU has attracted 185 million total viewers, 14 million more than the first eight days for Athens (171 million) and five million more than the Atlanta Games (180 million) which was the most viewed television event in history. The eight-day total for these Games has already surpassed the final overall viewership for the Torino, Nagano and Albertville Games (184 million each).

2) NBC’s Beijing Olympic eight-day average primetime viewership is 30.0 million, 13 percent ahead of Athens in 2004 (26.6 million).
