2006 world series

Tigers were favored, lost series 4-1.

I'm not even OP and I got the reference.

Team that is usually very shitty has a terrific season in which they make it to the playoffs and beat more heavily favored teams in the ALDS and ALCS. They seem unstoppable and their turn-around makes them media darlings. They are favored for the first time in the World Series but choke to a NL team nobody expected jack shit from.

This is ridiculous. The 2006 Tigers had the fourth-highest payroll in major league baseball that year. That they made the World Series is far from a surprise. That the Rays won the AL East with the lowest payroll in the league alone is astounding, that they won the pennant even moreso, and, well, the World Series isn't over yet.

I posted this after the ALCS and everyone told me the Rays would be sweeping their way through the World Series.
