>If Jake Peavy does indeed become trade bait in San Diego, watch the line form out the door for his services. Peavy, 27, is precisely the type of pitcher the Red Sox covet. And considering the close relationship between GMs Theo Epstein and Kevin Towers, don't rule out the Sox. The Padres would want a Dan Haren-type deal, and the Sox have the chips to do it.

brb Boston.

yankees could use him too

So could the Blue Jays.

>“If they think they need to get rid of me to make the team better, they might trade me,” Peavy said. “But I hope it doesn't come to that.”

One potential catch: As part of the $52-million extension Peavy received last season from CEO Sandy Alderson and Towers, he also obtained full no-trade powers through the 2010 season.

Peavy's consent, therefore, would be needed for a trade to any of the other 29 clubs.

What's more, Peavy told The San Diego Union-Tribune on Saturday that if it ever comes to it, he would only accept a trade to a National League team. If so, that would remove two of baseball's biggest spenders that Towers long has cultivated for trade purposes – the Yankees and Red Sox.

He wants to stay in the NL, but I'm sure he would go to the sox. The teams have great relations and Peavy would get a legit chance for a ring, something you can't say about any NL team.

But man, that would be scary. How the fuck do you deal with a team with a potential 4 aces, and maybe 5 if Buchholz ever gets his control back.

Any time a pitcher is up for trade/going to be traded Boston is ALWAYS mentioned. I don't think it'll happen. Just because parts of the media splooge to the idea of ever big name player pitching out on the West Coast doesn't mean it will happen.

I think Peavy will end up somewhere like...St. Louis, Houston, or uh...to the Rangers? I have no facts to base this on, no inside sources, this is just how I feel. If Peavy were a free agent, sure, I would buy the Red Sox. But in a trade? I just don't see it.

St. Louis does not sound like a bad fit

Who the fuck wants to go to the meth capital of the U.S.?

Nobody really WANTS to go there, but Peavy would be an excellent fit right there. Especially considering Carpenter's questionable health and the fact Mulder is useless now.
