Dear Eurofags,

Please take a note from the lolNHL on how to determine your championships. The intensity and passion involved in a 3 overtime game is far greater than the shit-show that was the ManU "win" last week.

I love Soccer, but your method for determining a whole league championship is simply retarded.

Europeans don't really "like" watching soccer.

It's just a mandatory element of their culture.

It's obvious from the way they describe the game. For example, "OMG WE HAVE ALREADY WATCHED A FULL 90 and EXTRA TIME. WATCHING ANY MORE WOULD BE BORING!"

Agreed.

Keep running the field till one of your busted asses scores a goal. Penalty kicks are fucking fail.

That's a terrible idea, they'd have over 9000 minute overtimes

They should just give up on soccer and watch superior versions of football (American, Australian, Gaelic or Rugby would do)

A soccer field is just too big to do that. Players get tired and the quality of play turns to shit, not to mention the injuries that happen. That and the fact that there are only 3 substitutions in the entire game really means the game has to end

and
>"It's obvious from the way they describe the game. For example, "OMG WE HAVE ALREADY WATCHED A FULL 90 and EXTRA TIME. WATCHING ANY MORE WOULD BE BORING!"

which soccer fan said that again?

oh right no one. go back to sleep, its 12 - 3 in the morning in the US

BAWWWWWWWWWW

Hockey has teams of people waiting to scrape blood of the ice, and if you injure a player you only get a 4 or 5 minute penalty, while soccer players get kicked out for the slightest touch. Don't talk about injuries

And you can allow for a few more substitutions in overtime, its no big deal

The difference between the CL final and the NHL playoffs though?

People watched the CL final.

So the fuck what? That doesn't mean it's better. Eurofags can't afford to play hockey (that's why they can't enjoy it) because they're chained to their balls with tax.

Tell that to the Russians. You know, world champions?

They can afford to play, they just don't want to. No one does. Not even Americans. If Eurofags took tips from the NHL then Football wouldn't be popular, would it?

Game 5 was won by luck, as are most multiple overtime games. I used to think this method was superior, but it honestly wouldn't work for soccer, nor does it show which team has more skill. In both cases, luck usually prevails.

>>132600
luck are you on crack. they played the game and someone won with a great shot. they didnt set the puck up for him like a baby and they played and won with skill unlike in a shootout
>> Anonymous
>>132603
>a great shot

I don't think so Tim. That GWG was ugly as sin, as it was bound to be with the game stretching out as long as it did.

>>132603
Yeah, its not like the puck bounced off of the fucking ref or anything.

Oh wait......

well we see it dif then i think it was a nice shot. not the best but enough to win the right way

Sure, Luck certainly plays a factor in the NHL, not only in overtime, but during the game as well, but it sure as fuck plays a part during Soccer games as well. How many posts did Chelsea hit in that game? How lucky was it for that fucker to slip on his game-winning PK?

Man up, allow for a few more subs, and decide your championship like men. Faggots. You're playing for the title, not some fucking friendly, you can make it another 30 minutes. Golden Goal bitches. Shootouts are cute for ratings, but when it comes down to the nitty-gritty, you put your balls on the line like every other fucking sport in the world.

What if:

Baseball canceled extra innings and had a Home Run derby instead?
Football had a Field Goal kickoff instead of their overtime? (Though NFL overtime is bullshit as well)
Basketball had a Free Throw contest instead of overtime?
Lacrosse? Shootout!
Rugby? Shootout!
EVERYONE SHOOTOUT!!!

Yeah, that'd be retarded, eh?

I saw at least three pucks bounce off Refs in Detroit's favor tonight. Its like the men in stripes were the 7th fucking man for them, Until Ryan Whitney put one of those fuckers in his place.

>>132617
we don't have shootouts in playoff overtimes faggot. It's sudden death overtimes, one goal, one winner.

or a "golden goal" as you'd call it.
>> Anonymous
>>132617
im with ya in the reg season shootouts are the best no one wants to see a tie. but when your team is on the wrong end of a huge lose in pk's its just really fucked up

>>132622
what league? iv all ways seen it go to pk's
>> Anonymous
>>132624
shootouts would be acceptable for the regular season IF

-they didn't dole out consolation points for OTLs
-they extended the 4-on-4 OT to 10 or 20 minutes. 5 just isn't enough to get much going.
>> Anonymous
>>132641
Wouldn't they be more motivated to play it safe if they know that they're getting a point out of it no matter what happens? Just keep it all-or-nothing.

>>132642
that's what I thought too, ESPN must've made a typo.

The best option for regular season OT:
20 minutes, 4v4. If OT ends in tie, then we go to shootout. No points awarded to the loser, but 2 points as usual given to the victor.

Playoff OT is fine just the way it is.
>> Anonymous
>>132650
This would be perfect. The best part is that with the longer 4-on-4 it's highly unlikely that a shootout will be needed in the first place. The shootout dosen't become overused like it is now, remains a highly exciting event when it DOES become necessary, and you don't have to worry about games ending in ties/going on forever to cement a winning team.
>> Anonymous
>>132650
Unfortunately some assholes (namely TSN's sportscasters, among others) are calling for progressive player removals (5 a side for 1OT, 4 a side for 2OT, 3 a side for 3OT, etc) because long playoff overtimes are 'boring'. Fuck these eastern-time geezers, marathon playoff OTs are the best thing about the Stanley Cup run.
>> Anonymous
>>132655
are you serious? that right there would lose alot of fanbase IMO. Playoff OT is just really exciting the way it is, like tonights game, or Stars/Sharks marathons. That's fun stuff to watch.

But this wouldn't work in the regular season because it would just wear down too many players from consistent game schedules, that's why I think another period of 4v4 should be set, because it most likely won't go into a shootout, and with no points awarded to the winner, would require both sides to work hard and make more epic and exciting reg season games. And like the other anon said, once both sides are lucky enough to make it to a shootout, would top it off.

Bettman is such a fag
