he's the man. highest coach winning percentage in history. former player who knows the fundamentals of the game in and out and can relate to players. he is the master of K.I.S.S. (keep is simple stupid) football. also, very entertaining in the booth if you don't take him too seriously.

He only coached in the NFL for 10 years. Plus he had a really good Raiders team but was only able to win one Super Bowl.

Still better than most coaches retard.

if santa cleaned himself up and put on a suit this sure would be the outcome

he did only win one superbowl with a good team but he was going up against a great dynasty in the Pittsburgh Steelers.

1. He looks weird as hell.
2. He's afraid of flying and has to take a bus everywhere.
3. He was a damn good coach.
4. He hates it when people go for it on 4th and long in his video game.

Point #4 "That drives me NUTS"

I lol'd first time i saw that. Also TELESTRATOR, pic mostly related.

I always think Madden is actually a lot smarter than he is, but he plays the bumbling grandpa to grow his notoriety.

Good point on the KISS football, though. In an age where Sabermetrics and obscure stats dictate sport, going back to basic, good old fashioned common-sense analysis is very refreshing.

Shula consistently had some of the best teams on paper from the mid-80s on, and never made it back to a Superbowl. He also did very little in terms of innovation to the game.

Bill Walsh revolutionized how offense is played, and had an incredible track record for developing assistant coaches. His coaching tree is unparalleled.

Pick someone who didn't coach in an era where you ran the ball 90% of the time and players still wore leather helmets.

Bill Walsh > all others

Old MNF> New MNF.
Madden may have been annoying at times, but he was often hilarious to listen to. He made football so simple, any idiot can watch it.
"The team with the most points usually wins the game."
"They want to get past the yellow line, but they can't see the yellow line, but we can see it."

Bill Parcells. Best schemer ever. Lombardi is the greatest of all-time regardless. He went 9-1 in the postseason on top of having more championships than anyone.

Despite not making superbowl appearences he still accomplished a hell of a lot. A couple of rings with Danny and they'd go down as the the best QB and head coach undisputed, but they were nice enough to allow other teams think they might have a shot at it. That's how classy Don Shula is, he's not some punk who gets lucky for 10 years then quits. He's commited. He's professional. He's Don Shula, the best coach of all time.

I was gonna say Mike Ditka so I can piss you people off.

Parcells was good. Very good.

He's overrated though. He never won a Super Bowl without Belicheck. And he had some spectacular failures.

Again, before you get your panties in a bunch, Parcells was a good coach, he just doesn't belong with types like Walsh and Gibbs.

Still bitter about the immaculate reception.

That makes me smile.

Football wouldn't be the same without him.

I will mourn his loss.

I agree with most of your post. However, he really wasn't a very successful football player at all. That's a common misconception. He only ever played Junior College football, and while he was good, he wasn't amazing. He was drafted by the Eagles but never played a down, as he suffered a career ending injury in training camp.

sweet sweet senility, yes it had to be said, madden is off his rocker, they just put him on tv so kids and retards know who is bugging the hell out of them on the video game. He kept it simple, because he is simple, now let the retard die in peace with the fading glimmer of his false greatness.

I did just find that out today, before your post. I was checking out Madden on wiki. I never really considered him being great player, just saying you can never give him that 'never played a down in his life' remark.
