Alright, so here's a college football thread. What do you guys think about the Bowl Championship Series? I personally think it needs to be changed to a playoff system in a similar fashion to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship, with a few modification. You take the champions from each of the Division I conferences, you take a few at-large teams, and the champion of Div I-AA, and you build a tournament bracket of either 16 or 32 teams. Personally, I'd like to see a 32 team bracket to give us an extra week of college football. You use the bowl games for the various playoff games, and viola, everything works great. The current system is flawed in that it always allows the autobid schools a shot at the championship without letting the vast majority of other conferences and schools have a ghost's prayer. What do you guys think?

Eh, I agree with OP. So many terrible teams went to bowl games this year.

Playing extra games can be stressful, these aren't pros. You're looking at having to play as many as 16 games a season.

Whoa. 16 games a season? Man, that is tough! I don't know if these young kids can do it these days. Give me a break. If you want a fair, real champion then you HAVE to have a playoff and a championship game. I don't agree with the OP's idea of putting the Div I-AA champion in there though, because they would have to push the Division I-A palyoffs until after the Division I-AA palyoffs. And, because they Div I-AA champion just played 4 more games than the Div I-A teams, they would be at an even grater disadvantage.

think a playoff would dilute the regular season, b/c NCAAF has the best regular season of all sports

the only thing they need to change is to never let ohio state go to the championship game ever again so more deserving t

I think it's alright as it is, honestly. I wish they'd cut down on the number of bowl games and get rid of all the advertising, though. Also, try to get the BCS games under 5 hours.

Well, how many conferences are there in Division I? I think there's like 11. So give the champions of those 11 conferences spots in the bracket based upon their regular season finish, then add a few at-large bids from the highest ranking teams in standings, (excluding the champions of course.) That'll stop the stupid Ohio State or Florida being in the championship game every fucking year, and give all other teams a legitimate shot at a National Championship, instead of five conferences hoarding it.

true but currently the "post season" is the most worthless. With D1 football being my favorite sport I'm torn. Every Saturday from the end of August to the beginning of December I watch football all day everyday including the hawaii game (gotta double up from the days losses, amirite?) however I could really care less about the bowl games as a whole.

Better for the fans who see their team's season end with a win rather than elimination in playoffs imo.

Fuck those fans, if their team isn't the best, then by fucking god thats just something they can look forward too next year

People who argue this are usually butthurt that their team got left out or don't like any team and just want to watch more football without regard for the bowl tradition (which is the entire reason college football is so fucking awesome).
