What is worse?

Getting the silver or the bronze?

With the bronze it's like "Hey, at least I got something" but with silver you're like the first loser.

I think getting a bronze medal must feel better at least at the medal ceremony, in sports that hold tournaments with bronze medal matches. In that case you've already had a chance to get over losing in the semifinal and gone out and won the bronze, so you're happy. But the person winning the silver just lost in the gold medal match and probably feels worse than you do. But in the end a silver medal is better than a bronze

Getting either is great when you know you are competing against the best in the world. Obviously I would prefer silver.

Most countries don't have alot of any of the medals so all this

"FIRST OF THE LOSERS LOL" is pretty silly unless you are from china and even then we are going to catch up pretty soon.

4th place is the worst to place in the Olympics.

You're good, but you get sweet fuck all. lol

Even moreso when it's by some small margin like 0.02 or something. You were almost there, but a little too slow.

bronze medal @ olympics > anything any 4chan user will ever accomplish

I say take all medals away except gold, and add a silver "Olympian" medal that everyone who made it past the preliminaries gets.

Face it, the only REAL medal is the gold one, and the olympian medal would just be proof that you were actually good enough to be in the olympics.

2 problems:

First, that could be costly. Seeing as some events have teams of 8 or more, each person on the team getting medals.

Second, that pretty much takes the worth out of the silver medal. Now that there are several people/teams getting them and no longer the three best, it's like getting the participation ribbon during an elementary track meet. For athletes to become one of the best is the whole reason why the medals exist. They symbolize the dreams and dedication it takes to achieve a feat like that. No offense, but personally, I feel the participation medal would kinda water that whole aspect down a bit.

How bout you add the fact that the majority of people participating in a single event won't even win a fucking medal, bronze sounds awefully nice now.

Even surviving the heats and participating in a final is a great accomplishment for some. Hell, even qualifying.
Only that Swede shuns bronze, even Cavic seemed content with his silver against Phelps and he lost by 0.01.

The fuck, give everyone a medal who competes? What is this some Little League bullshit where everyone gets a trophy?

Can't really knock silver and bronze (in before hurr hurr Americunt) because if Cavic is .01 seconds off a gold that shit still is noteworthy. Alot of these races and events are really close and I could easily see if it was ran or performed 10 times a couple of wins by the silver or bronze competitors.

Unless the race has Phelps or Bolt of course.

He was right though. The judges in this olympics have had to be some of the worst in ages.

Bronze>Silver.

It looks "goldier" than silver

Everyone knows that the Olympics are about receiving awards of beautiful gold, so-so silver, and shameful bronze.

That would make things more interesting, if everyone from now on who wins bronze is permanently banned from that sport and the Olympics.

in Gymnastics fuck yes they're bad. The Chinese and Japanese men's gymnastics teams made tons of mistakes and the US team gave a flawless run, but the other two won gold and silver.

Still it isn't as bad as the winter olympics where the judges are notorious for "block-voting" for favorites and corruption is widespread in plain sight

Many athletes will attest that in sports where there are gold and bronze medal matches, it's better to win the bronze medal match than to lose the gold medal match and "win" silver.

I'd tend to agree, despite being ranked lower. Gives a feeling of accomplishment, rather than falling short of something that was a definite possibility.

if they really ARE underage, I wonder how they feel, standing on the podium again and again, holding their gold medals, knowing that they cheat. must be tough, I feel a bit sorry for them actually. i doubt they will ever tell the truth in fear of the government and whatnot.

Go with silver, you can melt it down and get more money for it than gold in a few years.
