In defense of my fellows, though, while we may seem crass and rude a lot of the time, it's hard to find a city that knows and loves baseball more than Boston. Despite all the chants of "O-VER-RAT-ED" whenever he steps to the plate, we know in our hearts that Derek Jeter gives his heart and soul every game, and has been a damn good player for more than a decade.
Which is why I am so amazingly stoked that the Sox now have a player like that in Dustin Pedroia. Just watch, in 10 years this kid is going to have numbers close to if not better than Jeter's.
And while I wouldn't openly root for your boys either, it always makes it more fun when the Yankees are in the thick of it up there with the Sox. When the Rays came out playing good baseball this spring, I was looking forward to a 3-way dogfight the whole season.
Maybe next year the AL East will be the best division in baseball, with the Sox and Rays keeping their form from this year, the Yankees returning to their usual form, and the Blue Jays keeping up their tremendous late-season play.
