This. If it's strue a stupid reason to drop it. Should've droppped basketball from the Olympics back in the 90s then.

Softball is a sexist sport
I tried to get my beer league team into qualifying and they turned me away
>> Anonymous
>>270672baseball is still essentially an amateur event
I guess I missed the professional trampoline and synchronized swimming league championships then...

Make baseball a winter olympic event (played in a dome), then you can get MLB players to compete. It's just that simple.

>>270674
It's easier to justify keeping individual competitions of that sort than it is with team sports, because of the resources that are required for putting on a team sport tournament. Synchronized swimming and trampoline fill otherwise empty time-slots at existing facilities employed for other, higher-drawing events, whereas baseball and softball require a dedicated venue. That's a HUGE difference.

Furthermore, there is the argument that the Olympics are supposed to be represent the best in the world. That was the justification (the non-financial one, at any rate) for opening the games to professionals. It is undoubtedly true for synchronized swimming and trampoline (whether anyone CARES or not is another matter), but undoubtedly FALSE for baseball.

Yeah, but the people who voted to get rid of Baseball and softball were from Europe and Africa. Countries that don't have an long history of Baseball tradition.

Its was a biased decision made by the old world, against the new powers of North America, Central America, and Far East Asia.

That's actually not a bad idea. However, I'm not sure even that would work, given how much complaining there was about the World Baseball Classic.

fuck china lets ban table tennis amirite

fuck australia lets ban the madison

And the countries that voted to KEEP baseball WEREN'T biased? Please.

The fact is that it was a fair decision, and the right decision, within the context of how the Olympics work today. If you also want to argue that the Olympic Games ought to return to the traditional ideal of being all-amateur, then you might have a point (and I would likely agree with you), but otherwise there is no reason for baseball to remain a part of them.

they dropped it cause its a shit sport, tell me why they didnt drop basketball when the USA were beasts, they also dropped another sport other than softball and baseball, and no one was dominant in that sport.. you fail op faggot

The IOC voting group is dominated by Europe and Africa countries. So yes, it was biased against baseball and softball, if only because only a small number of countries play baseball or softball.

Why is a country like Uganda deciding something important to a country like Taiwan greatly enjoys?
>> Anonymous
Does this mean we can replace it with cricket. It also takes hours for one game, cannot be played in rain and is also totally impractical for 16 day time span.
>> your real father

but you can not sit thee and say that softball is just as popular as basketball. you just can't

Uninterested != biased.

A country like Uganda is not in a position to have anything either for or against baseball - they're neutral - and therefore is in the BEST position to determine its fate. Taiwan would be certain to vote to keep it, because THEY are interested parties - THAT'S bias.

Don't be paranoid. Uganda is not out to get the U.S. The fact is that no one cares about Olympic baseball, EVEN IN THE U.S. Before the press started stirring people up in the last few days, the average American's reaction to Olympic baseball being canceled was: "there's Olympic baseball? Why?" If WE don't care, why should the rest of the world?

Yep, unacceptable to have a sport the U.S is dominant at.

But hell, let's keep power-walking and Ping-Pong, those are really sports!

Seriously, if anything I'd rather them drop baseball, U.S's best baseball players don't even get to compete.
