This is the shit I always hate them most. It's probably just because I don't understand them at all, but shit always seems completely random to me.

Seriously, that diving shit was crazy. To a guy like me, I just see one dive and then that gets a slew of 7.5s and then a chinese diver does pretty much the same thing (as far as I can tell) and it's nothing but 9.5s. The same goes with gymnastics and figure skating and any other sport that doesn't have goals points or some objective thing. Maybe I'm just a butthurt American; I probably am

that doesn't mean I'm not right and awesome

pick related as she is the hottest thing I have ever seen. Sorry Nastia, but I would totally cheat on you with Guo Jingjing

The Chinese divers are good, no doubt, but they're not "lol 40 points higher than second place" good. Though I hate to jump on the BAWWWWW CHINESE CORRUPT bandwagon, something's going on.

I end up finding a lot of the Chinese athletes hot

except how did they find that fucking indoor volleyball team? Seriously they have to be all of the ugliest girls in China. I generally find indoor volleyball chicks to be hot (something about being a freakish giantess)

The reason the Chinese are so much better at diving is because they're like toothpicks compared to everyone else. Last week I was watching the synchro female and the commentator kept mentioning how the Chinese girls are so streamlined, and the Canadian girls were not. I'd go a step further and simply say the Canadian girls were fat. They were. No wonder they splashed like asteroids compared to the Chinese.

I also watched the diving and a few things struck me.

1. The top divers didn't just have some good dives, they had all good dives. All great dives in fact. Consistency seems key in judged sports - it's one thing to make an amazing move or play once in a while, but if you can do it every time, that's how you win.

2. I don't know 100% how dives are judged, but what I gathered was they only keep three of the seven scores (eliminating the two highest and the two lowest), add them up, and multiply by the degree of difficulty. If that's the case, then more difficult dives shouldn't be rewarded with higher marks from the judges automatically unless they are performed just as well as easier dives. But that seemed to be the case anyway. Guo would pull off a tough dive pretty well and get 9.5s (even a 10), despite it being good but obviously not perfect. Then that Russian woman would do what appeared to be an equally well-executed dive and get 8.5s. However...

3. As spectators, I think we tend to overemphasize the really obvious signs like gymnasts sticking their landings or divers making the smallest possible splash. There are so many factors at play during the actual dive (or gymnastics routine) that it's hard to be an armchair judge unless you really know what you're doing. Making a splash or taking a step on a landing is often an indicator of poor form, but not necessarily so.

I'm super pissed that I can't watch her as she has sex with some other guy

Guo Jingjing called the Canadian diver a fatass a couple of years ago.

lol at robotic Chinese athletes even making fun of Canadian fatties.

I don't see BAWWW, more of a inquisitive doubt and misunderstanding.

on hungarian eurosport there's a guest commentator who trains divers and judges diving
she's explaining the failures in every dive before the slow motion and this badass bitch is always right with that
she very rarely complain about the scores, so i think diving judges are fair
the host commentator asked her once that why the chinese are so good in this sport, the answer was simple "china has 100000 registered divers"
fucking huge talent pool...

The diving scoring system is a lot like the OLD gymnastics system was. Basically, it rewards solid form, NOT flashy shit.

Why did they change gymnastics to this start score shit that promises athletes who fuck up medals? Okay, so you're tiny and can add in another 1/2 twist, but you land on your face. What?

Deductions should be much higher, If you can't land after doing a superflashy move it doesn't count.
>> Anonymous
There are small things anyone that doesn't really know the "sport" doesn't spot that they deduct points for. Leg position when someone hits the water, for example.
>> Anonymous
Well I guess they don't deduct from movement to the left and right of the board

They SHOULD deduct for that, based on the judging standards.
