Kay guys, let me sum up your arguments. China is a horrible host (and BAWWWWW USA ISN'T GETTING GOLD MEDALS HANDED TO THEM ON A PLATTER) because:

-China used a better looking loli to sing some fucking song nobody cares about

- The opening ceremony actually looked pretty damn cool and kicks the asses of the previous ones'. (Look for Vancouver 2010's opening ceremony to feature a hobo in a beaver suit building an igloo)

- USA women's gymnastics team choked (see: 18-1, etc.)

- Chinese athletes are actually outperforming the superpowers of the world because they worked harder (perhaps forced to) and generally: the more you practise the better you get in something.

- Some athletes might be underaged, which makes things worse since you're losing to a kid

tl;dr Come up with better excuses for your country's lack of success

It seems like Euros/Canadians/Aussies or whoever keeps trying to bash the US in all these threads have abnormal inferiority complexes. Troll, but an uninformed OLDPOST troll.

-China used a better looking loli to sing some fucking song nobody cares about

Nay, China encouraged social eugenics and tried to pass off their uber cute soulless loli as a legitimate singer. This just leads to more questioning of what else they're not being legit on. Come on, these are the same people who bulldozed people's homes forcibly to get ready for these Olympics. Who knows what shady shit will be uncovered soon.

- USA women's gymnastics team choked (see: 18-1, etc.)

China delayed performances purposely.

- Chinese athletes are actually outperforming the superpowers of the world because they worked harder (perhaps forced to) and generally: the more you practise the better you get in something.

Perhaps? Of fucking course they did. They got 14 year olds working from the age of 3, taken from their parents. They have no social lives, no education, and no future. They are the same sort of Communist ilk that Yao Ming was made from. (BTW, fuck Yao for playing for China. He got famous with us).

- Some athletes might be underaged, which makes things worse since you're losing to a kid

Idiot or troll post. The younger an athlete gymnast, the better they perform. It's a matter of limberness. And since the Olympics just popped up, China conveniently passed off much younger girls as of age to gain an advantage. Doesn't matter how badly the other teams performed, China only performed well by lying about it's slave gym labor.

Tl;dr: Fuck China and quit reading /sp/ if you don't like people calling them on their shit.

They aren't training harder for it though. They're abusing children and forcing them to NOT LIVE their lives in the pursuit of winning some fucking medals for the Communist glory.

Think about that. That's not competition, that's slave labor.

Don't believe me? Look up Mao's doctrine on Communist athletics and international glory from the 60's. They spent decades following this mantra to create the Yao Ming freak. (And yes, he is a freak compared to China's standard person. He was literally a planned aberration they bred to make a superior Chinese basketball player. His parents were the two of tallest basketball players made to fuck in the Maoist program. From BIRTH he was made to be a basketball player). Given that they are BREEDING people forcefully, do you really think they don't have the drive to cheat elsewhere?

Now the Olympics are about random people who train their hardest and compete to represent their country in the largest games on Earth. The games are about sharing goodwill and the spirit of competition, lose or win (Look at Phelps. He is just there to swim and have a good time. He doesn't care if he loses or wins or breaks records).

China is not in this for goodwill, they are simply living out the Maoist idea of showing off to other countries how successful they are at making athletes artificially and by force through Communist efficiency. It's a lot like Space Jam, if you need a simple comparison.

Tl;dr: China isn't practicing fair competition with a pastiche of worthy athletes that live in their boundaries. They're literally breeding competitors and are driven to ruin lives, lie, cheat, and mislead the entire world to get some fucking medals. Pathetic.

This isn't butthurt, this is just the sports reaction to yet another incident of China's modern bullshit.

STFU uninformed fag. The kids aren't forced by the government to do shit. They can leave anytime they want, if given permission by their parents. Also, many of them are poor and the money the government pays their parents helps them not have to work ridiculous hours in the fields, or in terrible conditions in factories.

The worst case scenario is that a parent won't let their kid quit, which is terrible for the kid, but is no different than an over demanding/abusive parent in America.

Now stop BAWWWWing like you're from France and accept that China is a legitimate sports power.

They are not allowed to come home by their parents because the parents are instilled with the 60's Maoist pride. They also know the kids will at least be housed in cramped quarters and getting food more regularly than they would at their home.

Note though, that you are only noting the existence of a government that will let its people rot while it focuses on building stadiums and raising athletes.

The fact these gymnasts would have a shitty factory life instead of being beaten in a communal gym only REINFORCES the point about how fucked up China is.

Also, please slap yourself for considering isolated cases of abuse in the U.S. as prevalent as the negligence and contempt for poorer people that the new capitalist Chinese government harbors.

"I'm pumped about our relay," said Phelps. "It's the most fun thing to be in a team environment and be part of a relay.

"It's cool when you get four Americans who all swim well together. Everyone has to play their part or it's just not going to happen.

"We've been lucky that we've been able to do that."

His pursuit of world records is the icing on the cake, though he is reasonably displeased when he gets water in his goggles and didn't get the most out of his performance. I believe he wants to push himself personally, and the records are just par for the course in doing that.

No thanks, think I'll live in reality.

-Life in the sports factories, however, wasn't so different from life on the assembly lines. Both occupations provided workers with (or condemned them to) lifetime employment within the same danwei, or work unit. The best athletes usually lived five or six to a room, but they received a steadier diet of milk and meat than the rest of the population, a significant perk in a land where food was severely rationed. But athletic training was physically punishing and subject to the danwei's dictatorial rule. The danwei's minipotentates made, or at least enforced, nearly all of the key decisions in people's lives: where to live, where to work, what to eat, whom to marry and?most insidiously?what to think.

The athletes trained eight to 10 hours a day, year-round, on outdoor courts that were bitterly cold in winter and blisteringly hot in summer. Coaches routinely beat players and forced them to play while sick or injured, pressing them to display revolutionary spirit. Some cried tears of pain throughout practice. Others vomited at the sight of a basketball court. But they kept going. Lin Meizheng, a forward on the Shanghai women's team, suffered from a painful kidney infection but never missed a practice. "We always felt that showing spirit was the top priority," she says. "You may not be able to improve your technique, but you can always improve your spirit."

Most of your post is just an off topic little tantrum about political garbage completely unrelated to sports.

The fact of the matters is, there is very little stupid "Maoist pride" left in China. Today it's all about making money and making sure your children have an easy life than you did. So, if parents are forcing their kid to stay at the sports school, it's most likely that they have their child's best interest in mind. Maoism, on the other hand, was some moronic theory about a nation of peasants, which is a fate that parents are directly trying to avoid for their children.

Of course they can. However, it's not the government that forces them, it's their family.
Why do you think it's possible for these kids to be plucked and groomed from such a young age? Wouldn't the parents normally be against it? Not if Them being selected means they're set. The Chinese government takes care of the families whose children they select to become great athletes. And on top of that, many of the families of these athletes are dirt poor as it is. However, if the child goes, so does the package. And especially for the femal gymnasts, what good are they should they give up their training?

China is a huge country with huge problems, if there isn't a STRONG government with totalitarian policies, the whole place would burst into chaos.

I actually give credit for the "communist" government and all the things they did to make China better in the past two decades. Look at all the other countries in Asia, Thailand, Vietnam, Burma etc... some of them had democratic governments and they got NOWHERE. They are still just some third world country no one gives a shit about. Why? Too much chaos and shit going on. In China if you try to start some shit you get shot. And the national pride is doing us much good, look at India, other than the mind slaves (Doctors, Engineers etc) they export, their military is shit, their sports is shit, no one gives a shit about them.

Yeah, because Time magazine NEVER bends the truth or has a certain AMERICAN bias when it come to these things.

The Chinese sports system is simply different than the American one. The potential for abuse is there for both. Just because something is unfamiliar to you doesn't mean that it's horrible and inhumane like it's painted by the American press.

I'm sure if I wrote an article about abusive sports obsessed American parents that drove their children to hate the sports that they once loved, or the high school baseball player that killed himself over roiding himself up all the time the American sports system wouldn't look too great either.

Communism is not responsible for China's prosperity in any case. China has ALWAYS had the largest kingdoms and greatest cosmopolitan cultures for thousands of years.

The keyword in your sentence is 'HAD'. You must have missed the years 1700s - 1950s, where China was humilated by the West and Japan.

Mao/Communists brought together a country that wrecked by civil war/corruption for centuries and made it into one cohesive unit. The Chinese Communist Party - who are communist in name only as China is a capitalist nation - are most responsible for the 'RISING' of modern-day China.
>> Anonymous
No, they're not. The modern capitalist ventures that were begun in the Era of Reconstruction are responsible for making China what it is today.

The original Communist movement was responsible for isolating and trying to destroy many of the things that diversified China.

Communism's fall was just part of the cyclic rise of the Chinese people to a different ruling, just like every kingdom before Communism.
