Why is Fatdonald's a "proud sponsor of the Olympics"?

Isn't good health one of the promotion points of the Olympics?

It's even worse, I've seen ads that say they're a "proud sponsor of a healthy lifestyle" or something.

Oh, you mean the kind of lifestyle that doesn't include McDonalds?

most athletes have to consume over 9000 calories a day. my friends that have been to the olympics in the past claim that they were encouraged to eat mcdonalds a lot because it was a fast way to get the needed calories to keep up their energy.

You can have a healthy lifestyle and McDonalds
You just can't have a healthly lifestyle from eating nothing but McDonalds

San Antonio, Texas resident Deshan Woods went on a 90-day diet in which he lost nearly 14 pounds. He documented the entire experiment on his website LiquidCalories.com. His overall health improved while sticking to a diet mainly in burgers and fries. He stayed away from sugary drinks and stuck to non-caloric beverages instead. His average caloric intake was 2,500 kcal a day, which included 130 grams of fat. His cholesterol went down about 44 points.

Actually, I saw on a documentary that a lot of those boxed sandwiches that most people have for lunch have more fat and salt in them than a double cheeseburger.

I've read several athlete blogs that say all the American athletes are eating in Beijing is McDonald's. And not just the shitty ones, but the top-level ones, the basketball team (LeBron James has been seen at the same time, every day, eating McDonald's), everybody.

Pretty pathetic that

a) you're in a foreign country and eating mcdonald's
b) you're a top-class athlete and eating mcdonald's

James Blake was kind of shocked by it all but then again maybe he should fucking eat some McDonald's and then he would medal.

because if you drink water and dont stuff yourself, mcdonalds is perfectly fine to eat everyday

/sp/, defending McDonald's? WTF is this world coming to.

Sports related, dickfuck.

Why the fuck would athletes choose McDonald's for their energy food? I'm pretty fucking sure world class athletes know a better means.
>> Anonymous
>>259937
They may need over 9000 calories, but the fat % of mcdonald's food wouldn't be good for them.
>> Anonymous

Fat is good, it gives you energy. It's only bad if you don't do anything with it. If you sit on your ass, you'll gain weight like crazy.

All the fat in the world is perfectly healthy, as long as your body uses it. Remember, it's the number one source of pure energy.

>>259994
Not transfat, which McDonald's still has a load of in their food.
>> Anonymous
>>259994

Energy/calories are only one of a number of nutritional needs, especially for a high level athlete.

McDonald's does not come close to providing the essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals, etc.

>>259937

True, but McDonald's calories are fat artery-clogging shit not even remotely good for you.

Coca-Cola is also a sponsor, and soda is arguably worst than fast food.
>> Anonymous
>>259999

Quite the sheep, aren't you? All fat can be burned through excercise.

>>260000

I agree one needs a balanced diet. I'm not saying LIVE on fucking McDonald's!

Naturally, the kid in OP's pic is a fucking whale because his parents don't make him go outside and play. At his age it's not too late for his metabolism to pick back up, but right now that's a heart attack at 30 waiting to happen.

It's funny to me that Americans are so good at dodging responsibility. It shows in EVERYTHING we do. Hell, we fine or jail bartenders for doing their job (which is to serve alchohol/food, nothing else). Case in point: Amerifags say 'why excercise? I can't burn this trans-fat anyway!' which is absolutely retarded. There's no such thing as an otherwise healthy human being incapable of achieving their ideal weight.

The problem is that our athletes are at this very moment LIVING on McDonald's. Other countries are eating more healthily, and they don't even have the high-paid nutritionists and diet counselors we have in the US.

Also, I apparently had a 260000 GET

>>259977

it's also free for them.

Michael Phelps says he consumes around 10,000 calories everyday. There's no easy way to do this through healthy methods, therefore, junk and fast food. There's some truth to mcdonalds being a sponsor.

Coca cola isn't for athletes, it's for the millions of people watching the events.

closer to 6,000
>> Anonymous
>>260108

No it isn't, athletes get one meal ticket a day, the rest they have to pay for themselves.
>> Anonymous
>a) you're in a foreign country and eating mcdonald's

I think it's sort of understandable. In addition to the calories thing, the athletes probably want to eat food that they're familiar with-- they're in Beijing to compete for medals, not to sample whatever exotic (and potentially dangerous) foods they have.
>> Anonymous
Okay guys, we get that athletes need lots of calories and fats to burn off when they do athletics so they can eat McDonalds.

But that DOESN'T change that fact that McDonalds advertising itself as part of a 'healthy lifestyle' is extremely misleading for the average person! It is dishonest advertising.

>>260174
Actually more like 12,000.
>> Anonymous
>>260196

Agreed, but there are a lot better options than McDonald's available in the Olympic Village. I don't know all of them, but I know there's a Subway and a TGI Friday's.

Most athletes get their calories form pasta, oatmeal and bread. I read that phelps eats alot of pasta, bread, oatmeal and some pizza.

— three fried egg sandwiches with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions, and mayo
— one five-egg omelets
— a bowl of grits
— three slices of French toast with powdered sugar
— three chocolate chip pancakes
— two cups of coffee

>For lunch, Phelps drinks 1,000 calories worth of energy drinks, one pound of pasta with tomato sauce and two large ham and cheese sandwiches (with mayo) on white bread.

>For dinner, Phelps’ meal consists of six to eight slices of pizza, another pound of pasta with tomato sauce, and 1,000 calories of energy drinks.

Alot of the athletes eat fast food because, you can do it on the move. Plus you want to aviod local cuisine due to the water its cooked with. Not to say that the water is bad just that if you arent a local your body wont be use to some of its content that dont bother locals.

Last thing you want is a stomach virus or the runs, when you gotta compete in 40mins.

they give them money so it doesn't matter
money > values
if you were a REAL american you'd know that
