So let me get this straight, this loli bitch can earn tens of millions of dollars for tramping it up, but OJ Mayo deserves to be plastered all over ESPN today for getting a little spending cash?

Fuck high-school/college AMATEUR status. Nobody deserves to be earning $$$ from these kids more than the kids themselves.

yeah, but when am i gonna see mayo's tits?

no you're just an idiot

athletes deserve some sort of compensation, and i'll try and explain why:

1) the school gets way more from the players than the athletes do from the school

first off, if a team wins a championship, the school ultra benefits. they get a check if they even make it to a bowl game, title game, final four, etc...what do the players get? dick. not to mention the free publicity for potential students

2) coaches, AD's, staff, trainers, etc...SIGN MULTI-MILLION dollar contracts. schools always try and say they're about academics first, but we all know in the end, it's about cash. paying large salaries = attract better coaches = better teams = more tickets sold = more boosters = more revenue for the school

3) the NCAA is the biggest two-faced "organization" in sports. they always claim it's about the amateur status, the teamwork, the students, etc...it's all a bunch of bullshit. it's about multi-billion dollar TV deals, sponsorship, advertising, and ratings

how many times do good, deserving schools get shafted out of a bowl game, BCS game, tourney slot, to make way for a more 'well-known' school? all the fucking time. that's why there's a fucking debate on it every fucking year.

obviously the people behind mayo went about it the wrong way, but i sympathize with him completely. until the programs give students some sort of stipend or something per semester, it's total bullshit

colleges always bawww that their students leave early to turn pro.

WELL GUESS WHY ASSHOLES? PRO = CASH. COLLEGE = MISERY

enjoy your bushleague status NCAA

The point of college is... EDUCATION!! playing on sports teams is supposed to be an added bonus.

so fuck any ofthose kids needing extra shit.
>> Anonymous

>>95193The point of college is... EDUCATION!!

not when you're a student athelete. it is impossible for you to be a succesful student AND a successful athlete

the demand/schedule is too fucking hig

why do all the great players have joke majors? so they can take 12 credits a semester, show up to half the classes, and STILL pass because the profs have an understanding with the administration

but why do they do that?

so they can actually practice and play

> playing on sports teams is supposed to be an added bonus.

not when a student is getting PAID to play, aka scholarship.

when a student receives a scholarship, it shows that the school is putting a commitment and expectation on the student to perform at a certain level.

aka "we're giving your ass a free ride, you best put up a double-double tonight and give us some national media attention"

the pressure on a student athlete is ridiculous. especially when you consider, THAT THEY'RE STUDENTS.

school are always about money. always. not just in athletics, but in all the different departments. they try and milk you for every fucking cent. parking, books, bullshit activity fees, extra charges for everything under the sun

scholarship athletes have a symbiotic relationship with the school, and it's one where the school benefits way more than the student

>>95187

lol so you think i'm an idiot

the NCAA includes so much more than just your average pampered Division I-A basketball and football players.

do you have any idea how many different sports there are within the NCAA? should every single student-athlete that participates in official NCAA competition be paid a stipend for doing something they do voluntarily?
>> Anonymous
>>95207
there are plenty of kids at stanford who have pretty good majors and compete on both the football ad basketball team.
>> Anonymous
>>95213should every single student-athlete that participates in official NCAA competition be paid a stipend for doing something they do voluntarily?

i guess you didn't read my point. and the answer is yes

a UNIVERSAL (or at least set on a school level), cash ammount per year/semester. for all athletes

that, or coaches stop getting multi-million dollar deals and get paid what the rest of the faculty makes

>>95213the NCAA includes so much more than just your average pampered Division I-A basketball and football players.

i know, which is why i went on my rant.

a friend of mine ran for a school. the man had 0 free time. the season is crazier than almost any other sport.

run in the fall? check
indoor in the winter? check
run in the spring? check

and happens? the school cared way more for its D-I hockey team, and the runners couldn't even get a chance to go to an important meet b/c the school didn't have "the proper budget" for athletics. MEANWHILE, ACROSS THE YARD, HOCKEY TEAM X GETS TO FLY CROSS-COUNTRY AND GET THEIR SPORT ON

that's just one example, not even counting the dozens of other sports

it's a double-standard employed by colleges and the NCAA.

oh we're all about fair play and amateur status.

oh hey, we're going to parade our football/basketball stars around campus, shut down class today for a rally, and give TV networks unprecedented access to our campus (mostly to keep parents happy and try and attract new ones)

but wait a second! our TEAM WHICH IS NOT FOOTBALL/BASKETBALL (with students who BUST THEIR ASS) is gonna get the shaft because we pour so much money into the football program that we could finance 3 different teams in ALTERNATIVE SPORT X

all i'm saying is, if the school benefits from its athletes, the athletes should get some sort of fair play
>> Anonymous
>>95235

look man, i know what you're saying, but seriously, how can it possibly be worked out? does everyone get the same amount? does each school get to decide for itself? is the school allowed to give more to those athletes playing Div. I-A basketball/football than those who participate in other sports?

you're not the only who knows student-athletes. i went to NYU, which is basically D-III for just about every sport. all my friends who represented the school in athletics did it without being given a dime and still enjoyed it. and they had plenty of free time to chill or whatever on the weekends, except in season.

like i said, you are advocating paying people to do something they are not forced to do. that makes no sense to me. since the NCAA is so corrupt, wouldn't the best way to kill it be not participating? but we know that's not happening, because the number of those who do it for the love of the game outnumber those who have even just a one-in-a-million chance to go pro by such a wide margin it's not even worth mentioning. paying collegiate athletes just makes no sense to me.
>> Anonymous
whats really bullshit is that women have to get the same number of scholarships as the men. this in turn leads for them to moan about no tv time, which leads to us having to see the most boring version of basketball on tv. this is going on with almost all sports at the college level. ever watch softball on espn? i didn't think so. pat summit can go sit on a 18" gorilla cock.

This is the stupidest thing I've heard in a while.

No, universities should not be paying it's athletes anything. Many are already getting far more than they deserve. If you weren't a spoiled, middle-class shithead, you'd realize how valuable a free ride through college is. Anyone who isn't recieving a sports scholarship isn't obligated to participate in a sport, and, if they can't handle it, need to quit whining about it and just drop the sport.

That being said, the NCAA are hypocrites for banning college players from benefiting from endorsements and advertising.

Teen superstar Miley Cyrus has been offered the chance to pose naked for Playboy magazine, as soon as she turns 18.

Playboy boss Hugh Hefner wants to the 15-year-old to follow up her controversial photographs for a magazine recently and strip off completely in the pages of his magazine, but only when she reaches the legal age.

The Hannah Montana star sparked outrage when the candid snaps — which show Cyrus posing bare-backed, wrapped in a satin sheet — emerged online, forcing the singer/actress to issue an apology over the controversial Annie Leibovitz photos. Hefner says Cyrus would be ‘welcomed in the magazine’.

The 82-year-old also slammed the furore surrounding her poses for the magazine. “I think to make such a big to do over something as innocent as those photos, I think is a reflection on how schizophrenic America is about sexuality,” he said.
