This was a man of quality -- somebody who knew his craft, studied the sports he covered, and announced with proper calmness and excitement without going overboard or acting like a buffoon. The saddest part of this is that most people these days look up to Bob Noxious or Bryant Bumble in the same way, and those asstards aren't fit to drink Jim McKay's nut sweat.

no, but for years he was the voice of the olympics for the states, and for abc's wide world of sports. hearing the clips of him on espn bring me back to when i was a kid.

back in the day before they had live satellite coverage of everything, we had him on tape from around the world covering sports we didn't even care about.
