ITT, we post the team that would cause the world to end, if they ever played for a national title.

vs. Rutgers would be a great 1st rd. playoff matchup...if we didn't have 'puters and biased writers and coaches deciding everything, that is.

Rutgers wouldn't break .500 in a real conference.

No matter how good Boise State is, they'll never be in a BCS bowl, unless they somehow move into a BCS conference.

Personally, I'd like to see some of the better small conference schools get together and form their own conference, something like this-

Boise State
Tulsa
TCU
Nevada (for basketball reasons)
Fresno State
BYU
Utah
Southern Miss
UTEP
Memphis

Good idea, though you also have to consider geographic locations. Having east and west coast schools in the same conference would require too much travel.

that game against Louisville was like something out of a movie.

Rutgers wouldn't go .500 in the ACC, much less a real conference.

The Cubs and Royals wouldn't have a chance at football on any level, so they are still valid responses to this topic.

One of the things that amuses me most about sports boards is the percentage of people who seems so abolutely confident in suggesting things so screamingly ignorant.

First of all, you fail at high school geography.

And second, you're not familiar with the BCS rules at all, clearly. Currently Boise State is ranked higher than 16... and higher than the top team in the ACC. Which means if the season ended today, Boise State would play in a BCS game.

If you'll pull your thumb out of your butt, you'll notice the most difficult team remaining on Boise State's schedule is... San Jose State.

So, to make a long post short: You're wrong.

The highest-ranked champ of a non-BCS conference is automatically given a BCS bowl appearance if:
-They finish in the top 12 of the BCS rankings
OR
-They finish ahead of any of the 6 BCS conference champs

I'm sorry, but if Rutgers goes undefeated, there is absolutely no justification for not letting them play in the National Championship game. They won't of course, because of the uniform they wear. I hate college football, because it's scripted. Last year, it was decided from day 1 that usc would play texas, and even though penn state had a tougher schedule than either team, had they gone undefeated, we all know they wouldn't have played in the title game. This year, it is scripted that Ohio State will play another big name team. College football sucks until it gets a playoff system.

College football sucks until Penn State quits scheduling Youngstown State in Week 3. Or Akron in Week 1. Fix that and you don't need a playoff.
>> Anonymous
>>22549
Yea like they should schedule Notre Dame in week 2 or something, god how dare they play two games against teams that are better then the entire big east.
>> Anonymous
A playoff system will just not work for college football, we just need a better way of choosing who plays who. if we had a playoff these STUDENTS mind you, will lose alot of class time, they can't just go play in a play off that consumes too much time even if it was on a weekend, it still effects your class performance. Also bowls are a tradition, if we have a play off the bowl games will just deminish until all we have is an 8 team play off that will basically be just the BCS teams still, so if a lower conference goes undefeated, tough luck, the system would still be the same.
>> Anonymous
I don't think people are suggesting a full tournament of 64 teams to determine a national champ; that's ridiculous.

Keep all the lower bowls as they are, and convert the BCS bowls into an 8-team playoff system.
>> Anonymous
Keep in mind also that the bowl series does not necessarily take away from class. The vast majority of the bowls are set during the schools' Christmas/Winter breaks.

...Delaware? Since when are they good at basketball?

And do you mean a national championship? Boise State IS going to a BCS bowl, even though they'll be ridiculed every minute leading up to it.

Everyone wants a college football playoff system except the bowls and the conference presidents. As long as the bowls pay out the money they do, the conferences will never agree to a playoff system.
>> Anonymous
I don't think boise will get ridiculed, they've been at the top for years, and now finaly get a shot at a BCS bowl, Utah was never heavily critisized and they won convincingly.

Rutgers has a legitimate chance now, and do look like a legitimate contender they're 6 in the BCS in a competetive conference who is set to have more bowl eligible teams than their bowl tie ins (the bowl tie ins were set when Miami, VT, and BC were all in too btw) and everyone infront of them all have prime chances to lose all Rutgers has to do, watch out for West Virginia, they way they see it, if they're not going to the title game, no one from the big east is.

>>22851
Utah played a shittacular team that got in because the Big East sucked worse than the WAC. Boise is going to play someone good most likely, they wont get the ACC winner(who would beat them anyway)

>>22852
>if they're not going to the title game, no one from the big east is.
Yeah, this is for certain. WV is too far behind Rutgers in the BCS computer component (#2 vs #11). Louisville's strongest remaining opp. is S Fla, so not enough upside there.

The Rutgers fantasy scenario seems to be:
Cal beats USC, who turns around and beats ND.
Fla stumbles against Fla St, then beats Ark.
Ohio State and Michigan ends with a lopsided victory, probably doesn't matter which one wins.
Rutgers beats WVA convincingly to help themselves in the polls.
Ta-daaah!

Rutgers will eat it at Cincinnati this week

We shall see, we shall see. Cincinnati is 0-4 against ranked teams so far this year... geez, when (if ever) has Cincinnati played 5 ranked teams in a season?
>> Anonymous
>>22895

Well, those 4 games were at Ohio State(down 13-7 at half), at Virginia Tech(led in 4th Q), at Lville(took them to the last play), and at WVU(waxed). This is the first one they've had at home.

Rutgers is primed for a monumental letdown, particularly with 10 days between games. I wouldn't be surprised if Cincinnati won by more than one score.
>> Anonymous
>>22899
Oh, I don't doubt that Cincinnati could pull off the upset. Or that Rutgers could blow them away. Let 'em play and we'll find out. And yeah, Cincinnati's better than their record,

I'm marvelling at the fact that Cincinnati will end the season having played 5 teams that were Top 20 at gametime.
>> Anonymous
>>22899
i would, just because cincinatti is bowl eligible and plays competitive at times, doen't make them Rutgers prime let down, i would be surprised if they lost by only 1 score

Or so I thought too, that is, until we beat Louisville. I'm very well aware that this may all be a fluke, but the WVU game should help confirm one side or the other.
