You're still not Top 25 Material. You beat fucking UTEP, good job. Now win against an actual team.

Winrar. Let us again remind "The Tulsa Troll" along with the rest of /sp/ of the Golden Hurricane's schedule of fail (especially noting the fact that they gave up 26 points to currently winless North Texas and scheduled Central Arkansas which is a lol wat team even in the FCS):

8/30 @ UAB W 45-22
9/06 @ North Texas W 56-26
9/20 New Mexico W 56-14
9/27 Central Arkansas W 62-34
10/04 Rice W 63-28
10/11 @ Southern Methodist 37-31
10/18 Texas-El Paso W 77-35
10/26 Central Florida
11/01 @ Arkansas
11/15 @ Houston
11/22 Tulane

fucking shitty mid major teams that play no one. I hope arkansas who is TERRIBLE this year beats tulsa
>> Anonymous
>>415332

Yes, because it's Tulsa's fault their OOC schedule sucks this year.

These schedules are made up to ten years ahead of time. Let's not forget that both Rice and Tulsa beat North Texas far worse IN DENTON than LSU did in Baton Rouge.

I'd love to hear what school posters who rip on mid-majors attend, if any.
>> Anonymous
>>415337

You barely beat SMU. I'm not blaming them for picking his shitty schedule but even an undefeated season doesn't warrant them in a major bowl because they play absolutely no one.
>> Anonymous
>>415341

"You"? I have no affiliation with Tulsa. I am just noting that teams have no control over schedules that were set long before they were even recruited to play at that school.

Of course, a playoff would eliminate any need to argue over things like this.
>> Anonymous
>>415345

Watch the NFL for playoffs. Not having playoffs is what makes NCAA FB great because the regular season MATTERS and basically IS the playoff. If you take away the bowls from college football you lose all the regular season excitement.
>> Anonymous
>>415357

But clearly the regular season doesn't matter, if a team can go undefeated and still not be a champion.

As for losing regular season excitement, I'm pretty sure the NFL gets far more viewers for its regular season games than college football does.

What?! I-AA football has playoffs and the regular season games are still exciting by those fans who follow it and the same thing goes for all of college basketball. Saying that the regular season would lose excitement is just a poor excuse and allows for the dolts who reap the benefits of the shit-tastic BCS system to continue screwing over so many deserving teams for a NC bid.

Yes, schedules are done ahead of time and The Tulsa Troll has pointed out in a past thread that they were supposed to have Texas Tech this year. However, there's no way that any of you can possibly tell me with a straight face that, even ten years ago (or whenever) that playing North Texas, New Mexico, and Central Arkansas would be the keys to gaining national notoriety and respect. The Golden Hurricane's only possible "quality win" this year would have to come against Arkansas, and even that is a stretch to call it "quality" sine the Razorbacks couldn't even hold on against Kentucky.
>> Anonymous
>>415527

They play North Texas and New Mexico every year. Central Arkansas was the last-minute fill-in when Texas Tech reneged on the contract.
>> Anonymous
>>415527
If Tulsa does to Arkansas what they've done to virtually every team this year then they deserve a big bowl, not necessarily a BCS bowl, this year.
>> Anonymous
>>415532
Also I forgot to add that they could easily change to a stronger conference (even the MWC is looking tons better than C-USA), but such a change couldn't be made until the 2010 season (I think) due to the NCAA banning division and conference changes until that year.
>> Anonymous
>>415521

Are you honestly suggesting a team like Tulsa would deserve a NC or BCS bowl bid?
>> Anonymous
>>415531
Then the games against UNT and UNM need to be dropped ASAP if Tulsa ever wants any respect.

>>415532
If Tulsa does not make a BCS bowl this year (which they won't) and they win the C-USA Championship Game, they are contractually obligated to go to the Liberty Bowl against the champion of the Mountain West (unless Utah makes it into the BCS, which they won't).
>> Anonymous
>>415546
No you inane dolt, I was only talking about a fucking playoff system for I-A football since one loss teams are always screwed over, which is going to happen this year if two undefeated teams will play for the NC.
>> Anonymous
>>415548
That's fine then, I suppose, although I think Utah will probably lose to either BYU or TCU.
>> Anonymous
>>415539
If the Mountain West would want Tulsa, that helps maybe a little but not much. What the Golden Hurricane need regardless of conference affiliation (and you sure ain't gonna get into any BCS conference right now) is to step up like other mid-majors have like Boise State, Fresno State, and Southern Mississippi and have the foresight and nuts to play more BCS teams AND beat some of them. That is the only way Tulsa can enter the national consciousness and be taken seriously to be a potential BCS-buster if they ever threaten to run the table again.

>>415554
True. But, Utah is the only MWC team with a chance to move into the BCS now and thus open up that slot in the Liberty Bowl...that's why I said what I said.
>> Anonymous
>>415571

They scheduled two BCS teams this year. What more do you want? Do you think BCS teams happily schedule up-and-coming mid-majors? PROTIP: BCS teams play mid-majors only because they have to. Whenever else possible, they schedule FCS teams.
>> Anonymous
>>415571
If they go undefeated this year then the school's athletic department would be absolute idiots to not schedule BCS teams.
>> Anonymous
>>415585

Arkansas and who? Who's the second BCS team? Not to mention Arkansas is pretty terrible this year.
>> Anonymous
>>415585
Foresight and nuts, my friend (and, admittedly, some luck). Tulsa needs to take the Southern Miss creedo of "any time, any place, anywhere."

Just so you know, I'm actually on the side of almost any mid-major trying to bust this racket they call the BCS. On the other hand, that dream needs to be realistic. To think that Tulsa deserves a BCS shot this year with the schedule they have (even if with a supposed-to-play-Texas-Tech argument) is pure fantasy.
>> Anonymous
>>415591

Texas Tech, who reneged on the deal in the spring, forcing Tulsa to schedule Central Arkansas.

Anyway, I hate having to repeat this, but schedules are made up to ten years in advance, so saying that their schedule sucks and they should be penalized for it just because this happens to be a bad year for Arkansas is an invalid argument. It wasn't that long ago Arkansas was the SEC champion.
>> Anonymous
>>415644

Your argument is still invalid because they play no one.
>> Anonymous
Ball State is still undefeated and ranked too, but I have no delusions that they'll make a BCS game. They'll likely win the MAC and play a lackluster Big Ten team in the Motor City Bowl. It doesn't matter whether they finish 12-0 or 9-3; that is as far as their schedule will allow them to rise.

The point is not even that teams in non-BCS conferences do not get to play for the championship game, although that is legitimate given that all teams in Division I FBS pay the same fees to the NCAA to belong in that division and play along the same rules. It's that they don't have access to BCS money. The worst team in a BCS league (say, Syracuse or Washington State) will reap more revenue for their football program than the best team in a non-BCS league -- even if that team gets a BCS bowl invite.

The BCS is designed to ensure its selected teams maintain their dominance over non-BCS teams in the long run. Meanwhile, mid-majors have to bankrupt themselves just to stay competitive. Even baseball, long considered the most inequal of all sports, has revenue sharing. The NCAA funnels all its revenues to the top teams, or more specifically, all teams in its select six conferences. So teams that do nothing and suck for years, like Syracuse, still earn enough BCS money to hire a top-notch coach to replace their current shitty one. Mid-majors can never compete with that.

Actually there is a way to compete. I have heard rumors of the Non-BCS conferences meeting to discuss a plan to deal with this.

1. The non-BCS teams will start charging MASSIVE fees to the BCS teams to play them. Like 1 or 2M per game.

2. If the BCS teams don't want to pay that much, they won't get any cakewalks on their schedules. IE: Florida will have to start scheduling Oregon but none of them will do this because they have to pad their precious schedules.

Bottom line is the non-BCS schools will need to be paid more or the BCS schools are all going to have multiple losses on their schedules.
>> Anonymous
>>416425

Also in this situation, with the BCS teams all having multiple losses from not getting cakewalks, teams like Tulsa this year would wind up being ranked number 1.

The BCS implodes on itself and chaos reigns.
>> Anonymous
>>416425

That plan won't work because you'll never get compliance from all non-BCS teams. There will always be a Western Kentucky or Florida International that will break the cartel. Game theory suggests there is too much to gain from noncompliance.

>>416474

The way I heard it, there would be repercussions for the individual teams that did that. This would be a complete decision by ALL the non-BCS conferences.

Hey, the BCS is a cartel, this is a way for the non-BCS teams to survive. Call it what you will.
>> Anonymous
>>416524

Meanwhile, most non-BCS teams fund their entire football programs with the 250,000-1,000,000 dollars they get from a single game at a BCS school.

Losing those games means losing the revenue, too.
>> Anonymous
>>416474

They could play them, for 1 or 2 Million per game. As long as the BC$ teams want to pony up the cash, there's no problem.

Its already heading that way. Compare what the non-BCS teams are making per game now compared to just a few years ago.

This is just speeding it towards the inevitable conclusion.

Who wants to see teams like Mississippi State, Washington State, and Baylor continue to get welfare money just from the fact that they are in good conferences and contribute absolutely nothing footballwise.

I go to UTEP and Mike Price is ultimate fail. We signed him to a contract that we can't afford to terminate. All he does is get free Mexican food and enjoy the weather. He is also living off of his libel lawsuit against Sports Illustrated.
