Panthers thread.

Most under appreciated team in the NFL. ESPN jerks off to the Cowboys, Pats, Saints, FAVREs, and the Chargers non-stop.

The Panthers have a better record than all of them.

Panthers funfact: Steve Smith has the second-best yards per game in the NFL.

Awesome win over the Super Chargers or what?

i noticed that england managed to keep the power on in the building for the whole game. something buffalo was unable to do. perhaps the bills should consider relocating to london rather than toronto.

Yeah, it was a awesome way to start off the season. I didn't really expect them to win that one, but the "Cardiac Cats" pulled off the comeback. Very exciting.
>> This is once again a Panthers thread.
>>433990
Yeah, they also figured out how to get their game clock to work through the whole game. Maybe the Panthers could move there too.

Nah man, the Bills are moving to Vancouver or something. But I was surprised at the reception in England. The Saints pulled out a good game.

the britfags have been brainwashed with how cool soccer is supposed to be for so long that an NFL game got them to start to realize what real sport looks like. last year they were also very into the game. good for england.

GOD THE PANTHERS ARE SO BORING

I'm usually sympathetic to teams that don't get a lot of coverage, but the Panthers are so goddamn boring that I'm glad I never have to see them unless we're playing them. Every other NFC South team is 10x more interesting, even the Bucs who are a bunch of old people.

Wow, Steve Smith is by FAR the most exciting player to watch in the NFL. Every time he touches the ball he can make people miss (see: 65 yard TD yesterday). Your post also proves your a fag who doesn't like football.

Well, their game plan is also one of the most consistently decent ones in NFL history. Grind it out until the opposing team gets tired, all of a sudden what was usually a five yard run turns into a fifteen.

It is actually my favorite types of football. I always imagine a coach that gets it to work, they go into the fourth quarter down seven-fourteen, suddenly they put together some impressively long runs and he is sitting on the sidelines cackling and saying "Just as planned..."

Damn, well then he couldn't possibly carry an entire offense on his back and bring them to the Super Bowl or something. Even if he did, that particular Super Bowl would be a blowout because he is so below average. Right?

>>434214

I know you're trolling hard, but the Panthers get discussed so little we'll take what we can get.

>Damn, well then he couldn't possibly carry an entire offense on his back and bring them to the Super Bowl or something.

Stephen Davis was your man that year on offense, and as I recall your only Pro Bowl player on that side of the ball.

Panthers leading receiver, Steve Smith, caught 88 balls, 34 more than the next best receiver.

I'd put both of those players above Delhomme in importance, and your defense was your better unit anyway.

I count one game your offense scored above 30 points, and you were smack in the middle of the pack of scoring offense, and 10th in scoring defense.

Those stats are skewed somewhat by all the interceptions Jake Delhomme threw that put your defense on a short field. He threw interceptions at a 3.6% per attempt clip, which is high for an entrenched starter. Peyton Manning throws picks at a 2.7% rate.

Delhomme also coughed the ball up 15 times that year, but somehow he and his teammates managed to recover all but 6 of them. Both are still high.

So in conclusion Jake Delhomme is a mediocre turnover machine. Thank god he had Steve Smith, Stephen Davis, and a defense that year otherwise the Panthers would have gone nowhere.

Whoops, forgot the most important stat:

Panthers rush attempts: 522
Delhomme pass attempts: 449

That is astounding. In the modern passing league it rare to find a team that is UNDER a 50/50 pass to run split.

For comparison, here were the splits for the Patriots that year, another "running" team with a (then) game manager at QB:

Patriots rush attempts: 473
Tom Brady pass attempts: 527

Final stat worth considering:

Here are the Panthers receiving stats for the years following the Super Bowl until Delhomme was injured, Steve Smith followed by the 2nd leading receiver in catches:

2004
Steve Smith: 94 rec
Keary Colbert: 47 rec

2005 (Delhomme's only Pro Bowl year)
Steve Smith: 103 rec
DeShaun Foster: 34 rec

2006
Steve Smith: 83 rec
Keyshawn Johnson: 70 rec

Keep in mind Steve Smith was injured to varying degrees in all these seasons.

I think its same to say, for most of his career, Jake Delhomme has been the master of the "hand the ball off, throw to Steve Smith" offense.
