Ok, I don't think K-Rod should win the Cy Young. In fact, if anything, closers deserve the Cy Young less than ever before. They throw less total innings, only play in late game situations, and often get "saves" when in reality they didn't save the game, and are usually in a situation with little pressure. Saves are only big if they are getting their team out of a jam, and thus honestly "saving" the game.
Really, he would be 3rd or 4th on my list for the AL Cy Young Award. Who would put ahead of him? 1. Cliff Lee. Most wins + best ERA = Best pitcher. Also, 2nd best WHIP (Walks + Hits per innings pitched) in the AL. 2. Roy Halladay. Has a lot of losses, but this is due to his teams offense being a pile of shit. He is throwing more than anyone else in baseball, yet still is among the best in ERA, and is 3rd in WHIP in the AL 3. Mike Mussina. Yea, that's right, Mike Mussina. Isn't it funny how this guy is the one guy who has actually delivered for the Yankees all season? The guy everyone wanted to be traded last year, or before this season? Here he is, throwing the best stuff of his career, which is saying something. If he keeps pitching well AND the Yankees somehow make the postseason, he should get the nod.
However, to be fair, the same should go for Halladay (if that SOMEHOW happens)
K-Rod doesn't throw for many innings, has a mediocre WHIP and ERA for a reliever, and just is not as valuable as a great starter is. The fact that I am an Angelsfag and I am saying this shows how not-so-incredible K-Rod is.
And that's all I have to say. Any questions?
