I propose the debate.

Define marching band as a sport. Refer to dci and boa.

No, DCI is a musical competition, much like a Battle of the Bands at your local gin joint. Belongs in /mu/.

literally anything can be argued to be a sport. just look at pro wrestling

usually the argument against this is that in marching band, they sweat and actually do produce a workout to do their show.

You could say the same for dance competitions.

I mean, isn't athleticism just the use of the body to its extremes?

in b4 fat tuba player.

Not a sport.

I don't think I've ever seen a fat dci musician. I have seen fat boa though, but then again I think they can hide certain band members in a well-planned boa show. You cannot in dci, too many field judges and too few players.

marching band is a sport.People in a marching band work just as hard and it takes probably more talent than most sports.

comprehension and acknowledgement of musical ability is well beyond most people on /sp/.

however, i'm still going to say that although it takes as much, if not more, talent as most sports, it's still not a sport.

Cadets are fucking gay. They do cheezy shit and get waaaaayyy too much credit for it. The year I marched (2000) they tied with Cavaliers for champs and they weren't even close. Cadets in the 80s were tight, but they figured out the DCI game and they've been lame ever since.

As someone who participates in it, it's not a sport. It may require more talent and practice than most sports out there, and it may require someone to be in better physical shape, it's still not a sport.

It's a sport about as much as cheerleading is

Which is to say it is not one.
