lol cliff lee
enjoy your fluke season while it lasts
>> Anonymous
>>306619

I'm no fan of tripfaggotry, but it's not a fluke. Lee has won 18 games before.

Also, he totally reworked his delivery last year in the minors and added a new pitch.
>> Anonymous
Still shouldn't win the Cy Young. People just go way to fucking gaga over wins.
>> Anonymous
>>306626
Agreed. The AL Cy definitely should go to Daisake Matsukaze.
>> Cleveland Fag !!Orl1PSmX/ea
>>306626

Best ERA in the AL
2nd in Complete Games
4th in IP
3rd in WHIP

Either Halladay or Lee, depends on what stats they circlejerk over this year. If it's Wins? Lee. If it's IP last last year? Halladay.
7th in K's

god you people are faggots
18 wins

not cy young enough for you?

K/9 is way too low. Sorry, I don't agree with giving awards for fluke seasons. Cy is for the best pitcher, and that is clearly, Daesukai Matsuda.
>> Anonymous
>>306653

The leader in walks will never win the Cy Young.

Ever.
>> Anonymous
>>306649
No, a pitcher is supposed to lead his team.

See: C.C. Sabathia, 2007 (regular season), Josh Beckett, 2007 (entire season)
>> Anonymous

> K/9 is way too low.

Daisuike might not lead the league in walks. Daniel Cabrera might, so don't count your chickens until they cross the street. Faggot.
>> Anonymous
>>306656

So Mike Mussina is your CY.
>> Anonymous
>>306656

No, CY is not a team award.

Hi, I'm Josh Beckett. I miss starts because of a finger that hurts a little. Where do I collect my Cy Young trophy? Don't tell me I've got to play more games...
>> Anonymous
>>306660

Alright, let me be blunt, then.

Dice-K walks too many batters and get's his dick sucked only because he plays in a big market. He will never win the Cy Young because he walks too many batters.

Faggot.
>> Anonymous
>>306674
And the fact that he's a mediocre pitcher? I think that will have to do more with it.

Cliff Lee leads the AL with wins on a team that's fucking terrible. He wins games with basically no support.
>> Anonymous
>>306656

Pitcher is supposed to lead his team!
So your CY are only Francisco Rodriguez, Ervin Santana, Joe Nathan or John Lackey right?
>> Anonymous
Here's the thing. Lee's just a fluke, if Lee was pitching in the NL, he'd be 5th behind Liecium, Webb, C.C. and Johan Santana . But because he plays in a weakened AL for pitching, he's the frontrunner?
>> Anonymous
>>306683
What is CC Sabathia's deal then? He pitched like fucking garbage in the AL and then when he moves to the NL, all of a sudden, he's back to rare form in the NL Central?

You don't know shit. Facing pitchers in a lineup pads stats.
>> Anonymous
Roy Halladay

2.69 ERA
EIGHT MOTHEFUCKING EIGHT COMPLETE GAMES
175 strikeouts to 34 walks
2 shutouts

You could put together Cliff Lee's given up HRs and Halladay's given up HRs, and it would still be less than Dice-K's.

THE ONLY other option other than Lee is Halladay.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
pRAA

Cliff Lee: 40
Roy Halladay: 22
Daisuke Matsuzaka: 18
Mike Mussina (because I know Yankeefags will go apeshit if I don't include him): 18

The choice here is obvious.

Here's some other random guys that are worth consideration for second place:

Justin Duchscherer: 21
Joe Saunders: 5
Ervin Santana: 16
John Danks: 22

Also worth noting: Scott Kazmir, James Shields and Matt Garza combine for a pRAA of 12. How the hell are the Rays doing so well? It can't possibly be Andy Sonnanstine or Edwin Jackson.

http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?mode=viewstat&stat=134 for the curious. If you want something further in-depth, you're welcome to do your own research.

>> Anonymous
>>306683

Why are you so fucking dumb?

Lee is tied with Lincecum for highest ERA with 2.43

Three of the top 5 pitchers in ERA is from the AL.

Lee - 2.43
Lincecum - 2.43
Duchscherer - 2.54
Halladay - 2.69
Santana - 2.70

shut the fuck up

because you win games by playing small ball, not by waiting to hit that 3 run jack every night (im looking at you Yankees)
>> Anonymous

He's saying AL is easier to pitch in. I guess he doesn't understand you don't have to face a pitcher every game, padding those strikeout stats.

>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
>>306704

Small ball vs. home run doesn't explain why their record is so good despite their pitching being so bad.

Just for kicks, I looked up the final two numbers.

Andy Sonnanstine: -13
Edwin Jackson: 2

The entire Tampa Bay rotation has a combined pRAA of 1.

What the fuck.

And even in the adjusted standings they're still the #2 team in the AL.
>> Anonymous
>>306716
Nobody buys his DiceK bias, so he'd rather troll now. Ignore it.
>> Anonymous
Lincecum is leading his league in ERA and K's, and will still lose the Cy Young to some Arizona faggot.

The Cy Young is not about who's the best.
>> Anonymous
>>306718
Rays run differential is small, so the answer is:

Fluke. LIKE CLIFF LEE THIS SEASON
>> Anonymous
>>306721
Yes, it's a fluke year for Cliff Lee. He's pitching the best ball of his life. It may be a 1 year thing, but he's pitching better than anyone else in the majors.

Fluke or not, he deserves the Cy Young.

>>306718

>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE

It's not their offense - their Adjusted Equivalent Runs Created total is only good for 7th in the AL.

Their Adjusted Equivalent Runs Allowed total is good for #2 behind Toronto.

Somehow, their pitching is carrying them.
>> Anonymous
LMAO guys

Sorry, the voters like winners, not flukes.
Dasuki Matsumoto will win the Cy young. He's an established winner bother here and in China.

16 wins in his first 18 decisions. Only other Red Sox to do that is Pedro Martino and Rodger Clement. Two of the greatest pitchers in the deadball era. Coincidence? Chaos theory suggests otherwise.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
Also, I made some mistakes earlier. The REAL pRAA numbers from earlier are:

Lee - 38
Halladay - 23
Matsuzaka - 20

What? You're telling me facing the Cubs and Cards lineup is weaker than the Royals, or the Indians lineup? A PITCHER ONLY BATS ONCE PER LINEUP. IT DOES NOT FORCE AN NL TEAM TO PUT PANSIES IN THE OTHER EIGHT SLOTS.
>> Cleveland Fag !!Orl1PSmX/ea

>>306900

lol, Cliff Lee has to face that vaunted TIGERS LINEUP. Face it, the AL central is a lot weaker than the NL central this year.
>> Kilgamayan !2BklmILFiE
>>306939

Tigers have scored 675 runs this year, which is better than the entire NL Central sans the Cubs.

In addition, the White Sox and Twins have scored 687 and 684 respectively.
>> Anonymous
>>306949

and they gave up 670. You can win in the AL by giving up six runs when your team puts 7 runs on the board. Nobody pitches in the AL, what they really do is soft toss it to the hitters, hoping that they don't get raped by the bats.
>> Anonymous
Are people seriously trying to argue that the NL plays better baseball than the AL?
>> Anonymous
>>306981
Better then most on the AL central. The White Sox and Twins are going strong, but the other 4 teams are certainly fueling their records.

I don't think anyone is questioning the other divisions and their ability to be awesome
>> Anonymous
>>306984

Well, the AL Central blows, sure.

Not as bad as the NL West, though.

I'm saging this thread because I'm tired of coming here and seeing it at the top.

>>306674

Its going to be Dice-K, Halliday, or Lee. They are going to all put up similar numbers, so it's gunna be close.

Halliday will take CGs and Innings, which always help. Hes been amazing all season.

Dice-K will have the highest K/9 out of all of them, but the lowest innings pitched. If the Sox make the playoffs, that will help his case.

Lee will have an all around mix, and everyone loves a rags to riches story. He's also got wins on a crappy team, but the CY almost always goes to someone on a halfway decent team or better.
>> Anonymous
>>306989

Playoffs have no effect on Cy Young, Look at last year.

Dice-K has no shot, regardless.
>> Anonymous
>>306991

In addition, how is Lee a 'rags to riches' story? He's already proven he's a capable pitcher, he won 18 before...

Call it a comeback story then. Point is he sucked, now is doing good. Look at the coverage Josh Hamilton has been getting, compared to the other 2 people on his team doing as well, or Quintin whos doing better.

Also, I know your just trolling, but I feel I need to explain to others in this tread, that at a baseline, Dice-K has a compareable line to the other 2, but his playoff team will make a difference.
Its why CC got it last year over other people like Berdard.
