Amerifags, I was just wondering, what are your thoughts on promotion/relegation? Would any of you prefer it to your current system?
>> Anonymous
sure, why not. it would get rid of so much trash
>> Anonymous
/sp/ should do that.

send HKK to ebaums or something

or better yet, make him move out of his parents basement

Only baseball and hockey have a leagues that are even remotely similar on a lower level. Minor league soccer and basketball are extremely unstable, and minor league gridiron football (in the form of arena or indoor football) isn't even played by the same rules.

I think it's a cool idea, I like how it gives meaning to games between shit teams who are playing for something, but it's not feasible here, with the way major league sports ownership is, and with collective bargaining for players.

I still find it funny how capitalistic and cutthroat Euro sports leagues are, and how North American sports (especially the NFL) are so socialistic.

NFL definitely not, I could see it working with the NBA or NHL, though.

I think this would really help with the NHL, help make the sport more widely watched, exciting.

Relegation would be awesome in college football.

All six BCS conferences ally with a "lesser" conference. Every season, the winner of the lesser conference goes up to the BCS conference, and the worst team in the BCS conference gets relegated to the lesser conference.

For example, the PAC-10 allies with the Mountain West. After 2008, say Washington State gets booted into the Mountain West and Brigham Young (or TCU or whoever wins) goes up to the PAC-10.
mac, conf usa, wac

ACC - Conference USA
Big 10 - MAC
Big 12 - WAC
PAC 10 - Mountain West
SEC - Sun Belt

(and with the way the Big East is playing, they should ally with the Ivy League)

Amerifag here and it would be great and proper to have promotion/relegation in the MLS. However, we've got a LONG way to go before there would be enough teams in enough cities to get it done. With our sports being the way they are, fans would BAWWW too much upon relegation and the team would fold.

That's an interesting theory. But, what do we do with the independents: Notre Dame, Army, and Navy?

American sports have Reverse Relegation. The worse you do, the more awesome young talent you're entitled to.

Apparently, America likes to reward poor performance and penalize teams for doing well.

has never heard of and doesn't understand the benefits of parity across the league

i bet you're a bandwagon fan
>> Black ? Star !x8ngkAZjXE

ITS A LEAGUE OF PARITY
seriously though otherwise we would just have dynasties of bandwagon teams. The teams at the top don't need first pick.

Also the losing teams just wind up giving up all their draft picks anyway or drafting wrs

Ultra-fail. Unless you think the Bay Area has many bandwagon fans these days.

It will never happen, because if you're a billionaire-douchebag (and I say this knowing that the term is automatically redundant), there's no way you're going to vote FOR the chance for your team to be booted off TV, and into a 2nd-tier league.

Having said that, I STRONGLY URGE the Canadians to make this happen, even though the U.S. has secretly owned the NHL since 1998.

The MLB already has something like this, in that AL > NL, except these teams have been playing in their leagues for 100+ years, and in America we have so few traditions we get butthurt when you try to take away one of the six.

Hey, pal, the Astros were on pace to overtake the Phils until Selig-the-asshat made us play 3 "home" games in Milwaukee.

Believe what you like. The AL has won the All-Star game every year since 1997, except the year of that $!&# tie.

unfortunately, Al Davis defies all laws of parity. The raiders will suck until he dies, parity be damned.

We kinda have it...not really...close as you're gonna get.

Pro/Rel would kill the MLS and will never be adopted. Only retards and big soccer posters are too stupid to see this. I wouldn't mind seeing it in college sports though.
