Selling $300 seats to people who live half-a-tank of gas away from the arena in the state with the worst economy isn't exactly the best way to sell them.
Anyways, I'm blaming the Detroit media right now. After game 3 they were all like "HURR HURR Y R DEY EVEN PLAYAN A GAME FOR? SNED US 2 DA FINALES"

33 years.

I choose to look on the bright side. The longer this series winds up lasting the more time MUUUUUUUUUUUULE has to recover.

TBH I was expecting a series to come out of this, and sure enough it came. Just didn't think it'd take this late to show up.

Detroit is a major American city. They are in the WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS in the PLAYOFFS.

If they can't fill up the arena in that situation, they shouldn't have a team.

By the way, are there a bunch of empty seats at the Piston games?

You can get Pistons tickets for 25 bucks. The cheapest Red Wings tickets are three times as much.
>> Anonymous

>If they can't fill up the arena in that situation, they shouldn't have a team.

Good point! Major American cities with attendance records that scraped the very bottom of the league until the lockout are far more deserving!

Get off it. You make it sound like there are only 18000 Red Wings in the entire North American continent.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>104254

There is a difference between a team that had finished IN LAST PLACE 4 years in a row having bad attendance and a team in the FUCKING WESTERN CONFERENCE FINALS having bad attendance.
>> Anonymous
>>104225
>If they can't fill up the arena in that situation, they shouldn't have a team.

Easy talk coming from someone supporting a team housed in the shittiest, second-smallest arena in the league. An office Christmas party could fucking sell out the Igloo.

>>104259
"Oh! But the Tampa Bay Lightning did absolute shit this year, look at their attendance numbers!"

Are you capable of saying ANYthing that isn't laughably hypocritical?
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>104260

The Pens are so popular that they don't just sellout their own arena, they sell out almost EVERY away game.

That's a fucking fan base.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>104262

Boston and New Jersey.
>> Anonymous
>>104263
>they sell out almost EVERY away game.

So, they're exactly like the Red Wings? Nashville can't give away enough tickets to get anything resembling a sellout unless the Wings are in the building.
>> Anonymous
>>104264
I'm pretty sure that isn't how you pronounce Tampa Bay. Stop pussyfooting.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>104268

How about the more reasonable explanation that no one expected Tampa bay to be that bad this year.

In any event, they aren't failing to sell out in a PLAYOFF GAME.
>> Anonymous
>>104259
Right, because the Leafs and Habs suffer from terrible attendance numbers due to poor performance. Don't use W-L numbers as a human shield for a fairweather fanbase.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>104266

The Pens averaged 105.5% capacity during their away games this year.

And look where they were in 2004.

So what's your argument? That fairweather Penguins fans breed like cockroaches out from their filthy steel-factory epicenter?
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>104277

You apparently didn't watch much Hockey during the season.

They were 25-31-7 at that time. Bad but still with a glimmer of hope.

>>104280
Dear god, you might as well be chanting 33 YEARS 33 YEARS with that kind of speculative bullshit.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>104279

My argument? At least teams like the Pens HAVE fans that are willing to buy tickets when they do well.

The alternative is to be like Boston, New Jersey or Detroit and fail to sell out in the FUCKING PLAYOFFS.
>> Anonymous
If attendance numbers are the worst that can be said for Wings shit-talk, I'd say Detroit's doing pretty peachy.
>> CapitalistBastard !!f/pELCnjRD0
>>104285

Well there is the fact that they may not even reach the Finals. They are going back to Dallas for game 6.

What bothered me was the fact that I saw empty seats ON THE FUCKING CORNERS AND BEHIND THE NET AT ICE LEVEL. Hell, if I lived in Detroit I would have bought those tickets even though I don't like either team.

Are there no fucking hockey fans in that town?
>> Anonymous
>>104287
the city is full of poor people, fans cant afford the tickets
>> Anonymous
>>104287
You must not know the current state of affairs in Detroit. The city is a rotten shell filled with poor people. Those that can actually afford to go to the games live in the suburbs outside of town, and alot of people hate going into the city if they can avoid it.

>>104287
>What bothered me was the fact that I saw empty seats ON THE FUCKING CORNERS AND BEHIND THE NET AT ICE LEVEL. Hell, if I lived in Detroit I would have bought those tickets even though I don't like either team.

If you lived in Detroit you'd likely either be out of a job or be in a fragile state of employment, in which case I highly doubt you'd be so confident to spend that much of your wage.
>> Anonymous
I hate living in Toronto, they don't even sell tickets at the box office anymore. Every game is sold out weeks ahead of time.

>>104287

Oh fuck, Detroit's NEVER won a game in Dallas!
>> Anonymous
>>104298
Not as bad as here in Vancouver. Last season they had the most expensive tickets in the league, and I'm certain they still were this year since they brought prices up. They then make tickets even more expensive for 'premium' games when teams like the Wings play the Garage. It cost me about 120 bucks for an upper-bowl ticket at the blue line.
>> SCCAflagger !!gCgpSl26DF7
The ONLY reason Tampa had ANY good attendance was for the reason that everyones A/C was broken.
>> Anonymous
>>104287
Either way, your team is getting destroyed by the winner of the WCF.
