To be fair, it was pretty much the worst match he's ever played... and probably his first action since Euro. But yeah, he was atrocious.

It was like outside of Tevez, they didn't even start trying until down 0-2 with under 20 minutes left to play... reds' attack in shambles at the moment. They're capable of so much more, even without Ronaldo... see pic/score.

And aside from Rio Ferdinand, their defense seemed to be completely out of the game at times.

Nani contributed to some of that as well down the righthand side. He was awful today...

I mean, you'd like to see Rio do a bit better on that 2nd Zenit goal, but it was just a great individual play. The lackluster attack at the moment is much more worrisome than the center backs...

Scholesy surely you're experienced enough not to do that. He's quality but still a liability at times.

My favourite bit was where O'Shea ran over and hugged him pretending it was a real goal. Then when he saw no-one else was joining in, just kind of giving up. Fucking retard

thats what you do when you try to sell the goal dipshit. learn football or gtfo. maradona ran around trying to make the rest of the argentinian players cheer for the goal when he did the same, except scholes was more obvious

Well, if you see Maradona talking about his hand of God goal, he says he was telling his teammates to hug him and celebrate to make it look legit. Maybe O'Shea just wanted to do some acting in chance that it would fool the ref, or, he's just an idiot.

One of United best plays in the game was a cross by Wes Brown that lead to a John O'shea header. wtf!?!

Carrick, Owen and Giggs need to get fit quick. Nani and Anderson are too in experienced. Scholes showed in this match he still does daft things. Fletcher.. is a great squad/rotation player for United and probably would get into every XI between Everton and Stoke... But United have higher exceptions than Everton and Stoke. Same thing for Park expect for I rate him less (but he sells more shirts). Possebon and Da Silvas brothers need to be sent to Antwerp for a year while they're still teens.

At least this gave us a week off the Prem..

What's funny is that there were three ManU players standing, unchecked, just where the ball would land if Scholes didn't decide to play volleyball.

Van der Sar - retirement is looming.
Neville - what a stupid corner to concede
Evra - defensively looked very weak.
Vidic - pretty poor game by him.
Ferdinand - For a 'world class' defender he got beaten very easily by Danny in a 1 on 1.
Anderson - did very little. Seems to lack that special quality normallly associated with Brazilian players.
Scholes - what a stupid thing to do.
Nani - wouldn't even be good enough to be on Chelsea's bench.
Tevez - Man Utd's only good player on the night.
Rooney - I'd rather Dirk Kuyt. At least he runs hard and isn't a moron.

>>306383Nani - wouldn't even be good enough to be on Chelsea's bench.
Malouda > Nani? In fairness Nani still isn't considered to be instantly in XI. It's just through lack of fitness of better players.

Troll, moron... both? protip: even ronaldo wasn't very good at first... it was Nani's first real action since Euro really. He was awful, yes... but he's never looked so bad before, and he'll only get better and better.

You're all forgetting it was basically a peripheral cup exhibition. Does Man U ever try in these? Do any teams ever try in these that don't have something to prove? Exactly. Don't worry, Zenit is still a shit team & Fergie probably told his players not to really try or to risk picking up injuries because Man U gets one or two injuries in the wrong places & their season is dusted.

Manc here.

Scholes has lost it. I loved his goal though. It says something when John O'Shea has to take control of the game. We need to keep strengthening our squad. First, Berbatov. We need him, thats the end of it. Then we need to get Carrick, Hargreaves and Anderson playing in the middle. No O'Shea, no Scholes, they can't cut it/anymore. Also, Evra needs to learn how to defend, especially since Nani can't/wont.

Well done for ruining the thread.

Poor stuff, really, but its only a showpiece. Man Utd need a striker, and soon.
I think Fergie's definetly bringing one in, though, otherwise he wouldnt have accepted a bid from Everton for Saha, and I really doubt he would let him go if he didnt have someone ready.
One thing, though; last season started with draws against Reading and Pompey, and a defeat against city, and United still went on to win the Prem AND Champs. League, so there's no need to panic just yet.
