POPULATION DOES NOT MATTER!!! Anonymous
I'm sick of the ausfags and trolls who constantly talk about how "Australia and Korea is impressive because they have a smaller population compared to USA and China". And they also spam every medal discussion with the meaningless chart with the population/medal ratio.

Population size does NOT matter when it comes to winning medals. Sure, you may have a better chance of discovering someone like Phelps if you have a larger population. But you are assuming EVERY person in the country tries out EVERY sport for 6 months to a year (time needed to discover if they have a olympic level talent for the sport), and the country picks out their olympic athletes from a government draft based on those results or something. This is why the "Population = medal advantage" idea is total BS, many people may be extremely good at a certain sport, could even be you, you may be extremely good at fencing or waterpolo, but because you never had the chance or access to facilities to play these sports, you may never know.

In the end, it all comes down to the training facilities and talented coaches, and a country's attitude towards sports. Australia may be small, but they are a country with great sport facilities all across the country. Many children got a chance to try out different sports and many of them kept on playing the sport until they got really good, olympic good. Not because of genetics or some shit (their genes are largely the same as europeans and canadians)

Now, why is USA good at basketball? Because it's the most popular sport in school and everyone plays it. Why is China good at gymnastics? Because of good coaches (American coach is Chinese) and an intensive training regime. Why is America good at track and field? Because of niggers they enslaved from Africa, and these niggers could afford better training facilities than African niggers.

It's a mixture of many factors and cannot be easily determined nor nailed down to one key issue, because of that, arguing about it is moot.
