Greetings /sp/

Mike and Mike just had a segment regarding the Dream Team vs. the Redeem Team. I know most of you are probably raging and saging already, but keep reading.

The question is if the teams played as they were in the year they played in the Olympics, i.e. Bird and Magic are old, who would win?

DISCLAIMERS-

Obviously, if you took the Dream Team but put all the players in their primes, they would rape the everliving shit out of the Redeem Team. But most of those players were past their primes in '92, and their competition was much worse.

Also, if this year's team fails to win the gold in similar steamrolling fashion then this discussion is probably pointless.

TL;DR: Dream Team as they were in '92 vs. Redeem Team, who wins?

samefag here

Also, they mentioned that the style of play would probably have a significant effect on who would win.

International style would probably favor, the smaller, faster, more athletic Redeem Team, but the Dream Team's size (they have more than 1 actual center) would do well in an NBA style game.

Jordan was in his prime in 92 in the midst of his first run of 3 rings, end of discussion.

Dream team by far.

Shitty Redeem Team struggled against Spain, a bunch of teenagers and YMCA guys who were all a foot shorter than them. Magic Johnson is turning in his grave.

Different styles of play are one thing. Dream Team didn't have to play teams a certain way, as the teams they faced were shit-terrible. They averaged like 24 STEALS a game. The fact they blew out teams makes no difference, since nobody was coming to the NBA from these countries.

That's different. You have NBA caliber players on european teams. Redeem Team is playing their style and adapted to win that way, instead of just mashing the top 5 players in basketball on the court, and assraping everyone they face. European teams were up to that challenge since 2000.

Facing a team of the best NBA players that work as a unit, is something they cannot do.

I think it'd be a good game though, Dream Vs. Redeem. Defensive basketball vs. all out offensive basketball. Fast break points would probably determine the win, and it could be either side. I give the edge to the team with Jordan though, even though they have to deal with Barkley's nonsense.

Weren't they up by 35 in that game at one point? I don't think that's struggling.

True but see they tried the Dream Team 'mash all stars' attempt as well, however met with little chemistry and dare I say, bad player management by the coach as well?

Barkley was the glue to that start studded team in 92.

the ONLY player on the redeem team that could potentially cause problems is lebron. dream team didn't have someone with his combo of speed/strength. blowout otherwise though, as already stated jordan in prime.
