2010 VC WO Anonymous
So who is excited for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Its being held in Vancouver, Canada!
>> Anonymous
I'm excited if it means Chicago's 2016 bid is weakened due to geographic proximity.
>> Anonymous
I guess all they'll compete in is hockey, and call the games over when those events are finished. Have to finish the games in Alaska or something.
>> Anonymous
After this year's Olympics, I can't wait to see what scandals happen in two years. I also look forward to Canada becoming the new China. I predict /sp/ will treat the Figure Skating like this year's Gymnastics.

FUCK YEAR, CURLING
>> Anonymous
>>284455
IT WEAKENING NYC'S BID FOR 2012. I DOUBT IT WOULD WEAKEN CHI-TOWN'S.
>> Anonymous
>>284479
is that the one where they have to sweep in front of the glass ball thing?
>> Anonymous
>>284474
oh god I hope so.
I always look forward to curling, but the Summer games are always more fun for me... holy shit, in winter of 2010 i'll be in fucking COLLEGE. *massive brainfuck thinking about getting my act together*
>> Anonymous
>>284485

Yeah. It's a guilty pleasure.
>> Anonymous
>>284485

It's stone.
>> Anonymous
>>284490

And it's awesome.
>> Anonymous
it will be nice seeing events truly live and not this 15 hour tape delayed bullshit
>> Anonymous
Is there going to be a Jamaican Bobsled Team? If so, I propose that Usain Bolt take the front seat.
>> Anonymous
>>284500

Sucks to be the rest of the world, eh?

But the US will be getting it in 2014. Fucking Sochi? Shit, that's right by Georgia.
>> Anonymous
>>284505
wouldnt you want him in the back?
>> Anonymous
>>284521

I don't really know all that much about Bobsledding, to be honest. All I do know is that it would be awesome if Jamaica got a medal.
>> Anonymous
>>284521
The guy in the back is the brakeman - obviously unsuitable for Bolt.
>> Anonymous
Bolt should BE the bobsled.
>> Anonymous
Everything I know about bobsledding I learned from Cool Runnings.
>> Anonymous
>>284474
This. By the logic everyone has been going by concerning 2008, I can't wait for Canada to 'automatically' win all the judged events in 2010 by virtue of being the host team, hiccups in that reasoning due to the judges being an international contingency nowithstanding.
>> Anonymous
>>284548
That's all you NEED to know about bobsled.

I honestly think Bolt should do it. If he actually won a medal in bobsled that's got to put him into a pretty exclusive group.
>> Anonymous
Bolt is too giant for bobsled. Don't even think he'd fit
>> Anonymous
I will watch for delicious female figure skaters, but that's pretty much it.
>> Anonymous
>>284548
and that's the best way to learn about bobsled. Actually, I think we should set up one of those 4chan movie-watching channels and put cool runnings on.
>> Anonymous
Bolt for Luge or Skeleton? But yeah, he'd be entirely too tall. Speed Skating? It's like running on ice in skates, right?
>> Anonymous
>>284438
2010 is going to be what Bejing would be if China didn't repress any demonstrations. People here have gone fucking insane over the Olympics being hosted here, expect riots.
>> Anonymous
>>284608
>Speed Skating

Bingo, we found something for him. Has anybody ever won olympic gold/broken a WR in both the summer AND winter games? That'd be an awesome accomplishment for Bolt to do.
>> Anonymous
>>284478

Wait, so the top four choices are Brazil, Spain, US, Japan? That sucks.
>> Anonymous
>>284608

>Speed Skating

FUCK YEAR
>> Anonymous
>>284478
Hahahahaha, Brazil. The marathon will be a real-life recreation of City of God. Everyone who makes it to the finish without getting shot or kidnapped by a drug gang automatically gets a gold medal.
>> Anonymous
>>284618

He also seems like he'd have the ego to try for it.

I live in Vancouver. Hope it's good or we'll look like shit.
>> Anonymous
Mao Asada of Japan is going to kick some major ass, she's gonna beat Korea's Yuna Kim (I hate her!)
>> Anonymous
If Michelle Kwan decides to compete in the 2010 winter olympics, she's gonna have a lot of competition. A lot of the new skaters are doing triple triple jumps and even triple axels.
>> Anonymous
>>284869
Ah, she was the Shawn Johnson of the Winter Olympics. I, too, wish for her to have the gold. Speaking of figure skating, apparently the sport is in decline. :/
>> Anonymous
>>284825
Been to Hastings, like, ever? We already look like shit.
>> Anonymous

>>284869
Didn't she retire?

All the rage is for those Japanese and Korean skaters I think.
>> Anonymous
Oh good, all the psuedo-gymnastic experts are already becoming pseudo-ice skating experts.
>> Anonymous
>>284874
Yeah, I haven't followed that since Nagano. Maybe it's just me tho
>> Anonymous
For some reason olympic female curlers are so fucking cute
>> Anonymous
>>284892
Hey buddy, get your facts straight. I was a pseudo-ice skating expert BEFORE I was a pseudo-gymnastics expert!
>> Anonymous
>>284874
eh? that analogy is weird cause Michelle is already established and Shawn is a newcomer (it's the first time I've heard of her). I too want Michelle to win the gold but against skaters who are more nimble and are better at doing difficult jumps, it's almost impossible for Michelle to win in the new scoring system. I give my hats to Michelle for having the greatest artistry though.
>>284886
She was on "NBC today" and she didn't specify if she'll compete or not in the olympics, she's not retired but she is taking time off. I agree about Japan and Korea, they have the two best skaters from there.
>> Anonymous
Winter Olympics? Bah. They suck compared to the Summer games.
>> Anonymous
>>284892
we're going to need that /mu/ expert template soon
>> Anonymous
>>284908

is the new system anything like current gymnastic scoring system?
>> Anonymous
>>284892
see>>284906
Though I'm no expert, I do know what jumps are what: salchow, axel, toe, loop, and flip.
>> Anonymous
>>284923

Yeah, but it'll be in Canada and we usually screw them over not the other way around. lol. Oh, I kid. I love you, Canada.
>> Anonymous
Its gonna be sick im going! we need to get a skiing halfpipe in the olympics
>> Anonymous
They're similar in a way, the more difficult the jumps you do the higher the points (that's a given) and depending on how badly it's executed points will be taken off. Just like gymnastics, figure skating does not give perfect scores of 6s anymore.
>> Anonymous
>>284911
>I'm bitter because the US have never topped the WO medal count
>> Anonymous
>>284943
Not that, just that Winter Olympics isn't as great as the Summer ones. Seriously need to watch some dude go down a hill on skis & see who can jump the furthest? Only good Winter Olympic sport is Speed Skating, since theres always a chance of someone falling down.

Speed skating is awesome. Both the long and short track ones. Most of the other events are boring to watch, though. The only other events I watch are skiing slalom and bobsled.

Short track is a joke. It's watchable in that unintentionally-hilarious, MST3K kind of way.

Obviously the summer games have NOTHING like this.

Germany? Yeah, we've been around the block a couple times.

By 2010 global warming should have hopefully ended all the snow and ice

Time to watch some awesome winter sports.

You've obviously never seen the crashes that Ski Jumping can provide.

Going down a hill on ultra fast skis, jumping off said hill, and flying 70-100 or more meters through the air before landing.

Oh yeah. Nothing goes wrong with this event. Totally safe.
>> Anonymous
What events actually take place at the Winter olympics?

>>284428
what a shitty fucking logo.
