fuck, the skins D better be fuckign awsome, i need them to stay so i can finnaly be 2 and....wtf 7?
>> Anonymous
It all comes down to Pittsburgh's offensive play-calling.

If they do something other than *ahem* UNLEASH THE FUCKING DRAGON, every other down, it'll be a cakewalk for the Steelers.
>> Anonymous
You mean Shitsburh?
>> Anonymous
>>449002
Are you serious? The Skins are going to run all over them with the fucking MVP baby
>> Anonymous
>>449034
When did Drew Brees get traded to the skins?
>> Anonymous
Serious question, trolls gtfo:

Is establishing the run important for this game? I know one of the fundamental coaching memes is 'we want to keep a balanced offense', but I honestly don't see wasting 50% of your plays on running into these brick wall defenses as a winning strat.

I see a Pats style offense being quite effective, but running right at the Pitt or Washington lines feels like wasting plays, even with Clinton Portis.

Thoughts on the running game's impact this Monday night, anon?
>> Anonymous
>>449043
You need to tire them out and you need to show the opposing team you are willing to run given the opportunity.

Other wise they can just drop 10 guys into coverage and kill the shit out of you. Even if it isn't effective there should be a lot of first down running just to establish the threat of it.
>> Anonymous
>>449038
ha! brees isn't SHIT compared to Portis. Brees puts up staggeringly good numbers against staggeringly bad teams. When they played the Skins, how did he look? Anyone can pass on the teams he's played, but when they play good ones, he's fucking terrible. Portis runs on everyone. period.
>> Anonymous
Pittsburgh needs to win so the Dems will win the White House
>> Anonymous
Anyone know who has the Special Teams edge in this game? I'm looking for Pitt to treat Santana as a Hester-esque threat.

Also, how is the 'Skins homefield advantage? Always important on Monday night...
>> Anonymous
>>449043

Even though it was a division game and relatively early in the year, the 'Skins were able to destroy the Eagles' run defense when the two teams played back in Week 5. The Eagles went into that game with the #1-ranked run defense.

Establishing the run in this game will be important for both teams, especially Pittsburgh because Washington's secondary has been godly for most of the season so far. It helps to soften up the defense and make for play-action fakes, tosses, draws, shit like that more usable, plus it helps to control the clock.

TL;DR whoever runs the ball best will win this game.
>> Anonymous
>>449047
and helps set up play action.

Either:
Portis runs for 110 and a td
Moss goes for 80 and a td
Cooley goes for 45 and either he or ARE get a td

OR

Moss doesn't play

Portis runs for 90 catches 45 and has 2 tds
Cooley 85 yds and a td

>>449055
Largest stadium in the NFL right now. 91k. It will be LOUD, and shitsburgh's d is good with crowd behind them. Special teams is one of our weaknesses (PRs). Moss won't return if he plays because they don't want to fuck up his hammy. ARE doesn't return that well. Rock Cartwright is a fucking consistent kickoff returner, always start with good FP.
>> Anonymous
>>449043
No one runs well against Pittsburgh. Period. Washington needs to come out aggressively and attack Pittsburgh's back-up FS to open up Cooley in short-pass game.

Pittsburgh just needs to do something other than "seven-step drop, get sacked" every down. It's like Arians is Bizarro-Whisenhunt or something.
>> Anonymous
If Pitt gets off to an early lead, Washington needs to stay disciplined and run the ball, even if it doesn't seem to be working?

I understand that Pitt can air it out if they're down since Ben is a DRAGON threat, but I don't think Campbell would be as comfortable playing from behind...
>> Redskinsfag
>>449055

I'm pretty sure Pittsburgh has the special-teams edge here, because Washington's special-teams has been one of their few week spots. They rank second-to-last in punting average, and dead last in net punting average (LOL WASTED PICK ON DURANT BROOKS). Pittsburgh isn't much better in the first category, but much better in net punting average. It's only a less-than-10-yard difference, but those 10 yards can make a huge difference as the game progresses.

TL;DR Pittsburgh owns special teams.
>> Anonymous
>>449069
He's a comeback guy actually. His calm demeanor which can be frustrating also keeps his head and he doesn't make mistakes (as shown by his play).

>>449068
Actually, people said that about the Eagles too, and Portis changed that quite easily. I will say though, we don't blitz well and our pressure on the qb is sub-par. If that doesn't change this game and we don't come up with a few good packages, we could be in trouble. Our corners are good enough to cover one on one so we can send a safety or lbs.
>> Anonymous
>>449079

Cartwright is a better kickoff returner than the Steeler's returner.
>> Anonymous
>>449079

I'm really interested in both teams' suspect punting game, as this could very likely be a Field Position battle.

>>449081

Everyone gets pressure on Ben. Regardless. It's a scheme/personell weakness of the steelers this year.
>> Anonymous
>>449081
The Eagles example doesn't mean much as Philadelphia dropped to #8 against the run and give up 25.8 more rush yards per game than Pittsburgh. New York (who average 7.4 rush yards per game more than Washington) left Pittsburgh with only 83 rush yards on 35 attempts.
>> Anonymous
>>449095Everyone gets pressure on Ben

So Philadelphia and New York are "everyone" now? Subtracting the sack totals from those games, Roethlisberger's only been sacked 10 times.

>>449107
Uh the Giants running game is NOT as good as the Skins. I would rather have Portis than Ward/Jacobs. For the SIXTH. SIXTH. SIXTH game in a row Portis will run for more than 120

For the last 17 presidential elections, there has been a pattern: If the Redskins win their final home game before Election Day, the incumbent party stays in power. If they lose, the other party wins the election.

Go Steelers.

"Leading rusher" does not imply "best run offense". Total rush yardage does. Are you new to football or something?
>> Redskinsfag

FAIL, that pattern was broken during the last election in '04. The 'Skins lost to the Packers, but the Repubes stayed in office. lrn2history

Brandon Jacobs has a better average yards per carry, as well.

LEADING THE NFL IN TOTAL RUSHING YARDAGE. Jesus you're fucking dense. and I love the last ditch "are you new or something?" insult. Nothing stinks of desperation more than random insults. Especially when you're fucking WRONG.

Okay, Sport. Go find New York's (the Giants', nitwit) average rushing yards per game for 2008.

Then look at Washington's average rushing yards per game for 2008.

Notice how New York's is higher? Yes, Sport 162.6 is in fact a higher number than 155.2. You see, this isn't golf: higher is better.

"BUT BAWWWWWW CLINTON PORTIS LEADS THE LEAGUE". Yes, I do understand this, Sport. But the thing is, New York uses more than one running back. While Washington has one back running for a lot of yardage, New York mostly uses two, and you know what? 1117 (Jacobs' + Ward's yardage) is greater than 944 (Portis' yardage). Just for kicks, I'll point out that New York has 10 rushing touchdowns to Washington's 7.

The skins just got done playing the Rams, the Browns, and then the Lions. The transition from those teams to the Steelers will be to much, and cause Campbells head to explode.

If the Jason Campbell interview is a prelude for what's about to come, this game is gonna be AWESOME.

Did he seriously just ask the interviewer what the power level of Pittsburgh's linebacking corps was?
>> Billy the Blue Ranger !5lGrhM17rM
Pittsburgh is going to turn it up to 11 for this game. I don't think they fancy losing two straight to NFC East teams. CP will be held to around 75 yards, Campbell will throw at least one pick, and the final score will be something along the lines of 16 - 14 Pittsburgh.
>> Anonymous
Steelers will lose 5 games this season, all to NFC east teams. 18-1 in any other AFC division

Anyone else GOING to the game? I've got 1st row seats, in one of the corners. I'll be wearing a Laverneus Coles jersey since its 1. The only Skins jersey I have. and B. I'm a Packers fan. Go A-Rod! (lol sorry, I'm gay for him. Literally <3)

Who thinks the election implications of this game are strange? If the Skins win, McCain wins, Steelers, Obama wins. The Skins have predicted the last 17 elections using this method.

I'm really torn on this one because of the "redskin" election predictor.

When the redskins win their last game before the election, the Republicans win the White House. If the redskins go down, the Democrats win.
