Hay /hoc/...

What would it be like if the Hartford Whalers were reactivated?

As in, what if the Connecticut government grows some balls and actually builds Hartford a modern 18,000+ seat stadium to attract an expansion NHL franchise to Hartford, only for it to be named the Whalers, complete with previous logos and stuff?

Would Hartford fans necessarily care? Would it be like the Minnesota Wild, who have one of the best attendance rates among the American NHL teams? Or would it be like the Nashville Predators, who struggle for attendance, despite on-ice success?

Would a revival of the Whalers be a good thing?

Even if they got the arena, there are four other teams in the immediate area whose hockey markets a Hartford resurgence would impede on. They'd have to pay reparations to all fours teams to make up for potentially lost revenue.

I see a fucking Whalers mention on /sp/ every week. Give it up faggot, pro sports don't belong in Connecticut.

But where are the Wolfpack going to play?

Well, seeing as Hartford was an already existing market (and a pretty good one at that) through the 80's and early 90's, there isn't much of a "market invasion."

Also, it would make for an awesome New England rivalry (Boston and Hartford, which back in the day was pretty intense)

The Wolfpack could continue to play in the Civic Center. Its still a popular venue for other stuff...ever notice how the Whalers banners still hang from the rafters?
