Here's the problems with the current allstar system. The game matters for home field in the world series and it's a popularity contest.
The solutions are one of the following:
1. If players get voted in by fans, players, coaches, and it's a popularity contest, the game cannot matter in the scheme of things. It's an exhibition, and that's it. Fans get to see their favorite players show off, and then we get back to real games. Home field in the world series is determined by the best record in the regular season.
2. The game matters, and determines home field in the world series, but players are determined by statistics. Best players only. No more 1 person for each team, this is hardcore best of the best baseball. Every position has the best players in the game, and coaches play this game like it's game 7 in the playoffs. Fuck the fans, this game means something.
I say option #1, because that's the way it should be done, and the way it was done long ago, before stupid people cared about ties. The game doesn't matter, so why does the outcome matter at all.
