Inspired by >>>67429I propose Amerifags on /sp/ collectively choose a team to support (or follow the progress of on 4chan) that you probably don't know much about. Before you start spouting off Derby etc etc, my suggestion is to follow a team that isn't Premiership, but in the second tier of English football. So, here are the choices:

BARNSLEY
NORWICH CITY
BLACKPOOL
PLYMOUTH ARGYLE
BRISTOL CITY
PRESTON NORTH END
BURNLEY
QPR
CARDIFF CITY
SCUNTHORPE UNITED
CHARLTON ATHLETIC
SHEFFIELD UNITED
COLCHESTER UNITED

is it just me or is a sports league where three or four teams can dominate for years and years through financial entrenchment and other means shittier than a shitburger filled with AIDS and shit?

seriously, fuck the epl.

Well... in la liga Real Madrid has always dominated.

And barçafags cant deny it, they have like half the titles of RM, they have always been 2nd or 3rd.

Dont you have tiers in Amerifail? That's why I said choose a team in the second tier, no team can dominate for years cus they get promoted to the higher league.

Naw. A good example of what poor(lacking money) team can do is Villarreal. They were a bottom list team, and with Manuel Pellegrini they are fighting the 2nd place on la liga right now. And its a team where the most they can afford is bring a dying star like Pires.

this thread is stupid, and started by a supporter of a League 2 team bitter about never making it to the big time.

There are divisions in college sports. That's not nearly the same thing though.

So what happens when our 2nd tier team gets promoted or demoted? We choose another?

I have to say English football seems stupid. It sounds like if you don't root for any of the teams in the OP's pic plus maybe two or three more, you have about as much chance as a Detroit Lions fan of winning a championship in your lifetime.

I propose we root for Villarreal instead.

Amerifag here who posted>>68447-- when your team gets relegated, even if it's twice, you take it like a man and root for them to get their shit together again. And, you stick with your team like a man...no jumping on and off the bandwagon (e.g. Red Sox, Cowboys, Celtics, etc.)

Football isn't about winning all the time. It's abotu supporting your local team, the team your family supported, tradition, history etc. Some of the best atmosphere and banter is in leagues much further down.

In the English 3rd tier of football (League One), Leeds United get over 30 000 people turning up for matchs and they havn't won shit for a long time.

Newcastle United are a shit team from the North East who havn't won a single trophy for about 50 years, but get 50k turning, week in week out.

I'm a Scotfag though, supporting Rangers which may make me sound hypocritical because I support the most successful domestic team in football history.

tl;dr: not everyone likes the top 4.

Why would I need to take it like a man if they went up a division? I was just asking about the stupid qualification that we had to root for a 2nd division team that never is promoted or demoted.

You guys are in a bit of a mess now which is unfortuante, Scottish football needs a strong Hearts/Aberdeen/Hibs team.

>>68489

No, it's about supporting your team whatever the outcome of games and league position. A loyal fan will stick to his team no matter how bad they are or good.

My team has a terrible season last year by our standards, but I still went to every single game week in week out, suffered the abuse from other fans of other teams. Now we're top of the league, and in the semi final of a European competition this season. That's what loyality is about.

Same with the Hearts fan in this thread, they're going through a very tough time at the moment at board and financial level, but they still have a loyal fan base who go see their team through and through.

>>68489
The point is winning, but staying loyal to one team even if they don't win... (didnt the Red sox go like 100 years without winning? they had some hardcore fans i guess)

Chelsea (brothers in blue, we have a strong connection with Chelsea)
Bristol City (my FM08 team)

Learn 2 revenue share and salary cap, idiot. Without at least those two methods of evening out the take, any league is a joke, less a competition than simply a scheduling exercise for the big-market teams.

And I'm not talking the shitty "luxury tax" soft cap of Major League Baseball, I'm talking the hard cap of the NFL.
>> Anonymous
>>68518
Dont bother explaining, every england faggot is always calling everyone that supports english football a glory hunter.
>> Anonymous
>>68494
>>68496
Let an Amerifag try to explain these further wise words in a way that other Amerifags will understand.

Think of it like our NCAA basketball tournament. Yes, your little piss-ant school like Davidson, George Mason, or Western Kentucky (in b4 RED DRANK) has no real chance to ever be the champion. But, isn't it fun when the DO have that miracle season and start scaring the shit out of the Kansases, UCLAs, and North Carolinas of the world? Yeah, then they often go right back into mediocrity in their little podunk conference (league). But, you will always remember with great fondness those few times they DID do something that put "your" team on the map. On the other hand, you could root for some school like Kentucky where a year with 28-3 record and making it to the "Elite Eight" isn't good enough, thus making you a typical, thoughtless Amerifag sports fan.

I think OP's point would be better rephrased this way...pick a team because there's something about them -- tradition, players, location, colors, name -- that you LIKE, not just because they win all of the time.

tl;dr -- Amerifags, stop bandwagoning!

Hi /sp/.I've been supporing man utd for almost 14 years but i'm not from england.am i a glory hunter?
>> Anonymous
>>68520
I'm not English, and I didn't call him a fucking glory hunter. He just said shit like "according to our standards" and other weasel words, and as this was a discussion of the EPL I wanted to know which Big 4 team he rooted for, since he said his team was now high on the hog.
>> Anonymous
OP Here.

Seems many have missed the point here. I didn't want to start a 'hate the big teams who spend money' rant. That gets discussed plenty on here. What I wanted to have is the Americans who don't really have a strong interest in 'soccer' and participate in Premiership threads being glory hunters and supporting the Big Four just because they win TO STOP FUCKING GLORY HUNTING. Instead collectively have a lower division team (who most of you wont know anything about) to support like most British people. IMO you should support your hometown team, but Amerifags cant do that so we simply should choose one to adopt.
>> Anonymous
>>68521
So which little piss-ant school do you root for exclusively then? Or do you just root for all and any of them against the big boys?

Do you understand the difference?
>> Anonymous
>>68524
We support big 4 teams because they're shown on TV more. End of story. It sucks supporting some shitass team that you never get to see play.

>>68524
>Instead collectively have a lower division team (who most of you wont know anything about) to support like most British people. IMO you should support your hometown team, but Amerifags cant do that so we simply should choose one to adopt.

If /sp/'s team was Cardiff you'd get to see them play plenty this season ;-). This isn't a thread to make you whole heartedly support a team watching every game. Just one to go with other anons 'LULZ, our team pwned Huddersfield 4-1 yesterday, lets go raid their forum' etc etc.

>> Anonymous
>>68530
So tell us all about Sacramento State then. Really get into it. Tell us about all the grand times you've had watching them play, on TV and in person.

Tell us about all the other fans that exclusively root for the Sacramento State Hornets or whatever the fuck they are.

Now imagine the NBA and NFL don't exist, everyone in your area that wears 49ers, Raiders or Golden State caps wears USC or Cal caps, and tell us how much you would hypothetically hate those bandwagoners.

Rooting for Sac State in that situation isn't for people who like intense competition, its for people who are looking for the bonding of a support group or social club.

Tell you about the Sac State Hornets and really get into it? Who do you think I am, Stephen King?

As with all teams, the competition will get more fierce when the teams improve, as happened in 1988 when the Hornets beat hated rival UC Davis twice in the same year -- once in the Causeway Classic regular season game, and again in the Division II playoffs. And, I look forward to it because I do miss it from the days before the 49'ers began to suck.

As for TV, that happens only rarely on one of the regional Fox Sports networks. I can't claim any happy highlights there because I admit to it being no fun to see an asshanding from the likes of Weber State.

If you insist again, maybe I'll write you a novel on Sunday afternoon. For now, I'm going to sleep and dream of the day when Lee Corso will be sitting in the Hughes Stadium parking lot...Hornets join the new Pac-12...fap fap fap fap.

Dude fuck you & OP. I started rooting for Utd about 10 yrs ago now, & No.68451 brings up a good point. Back then if it wasn't on ESPN nobody in the states saw it. Later on my family got a satellite dish so I was able to learn more via fox sports world (now FSC), but watching Utd & other teams in UCL midweek afternoon matches taught me about the sport in general. I liked their players, especially Schmeichel because my buddy was a GK for our HS team, we'd rush home from school to see the matches & the 99 CL final was great, I was hooked after that. Since I was like 14 you want a silly reason like colors? Well yeah, that's part of the reason I liked MUFC too. I'm a GA fag, we're red, white and black, so is Utd. We sing Glory Glory, so do they. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georgia_Bulldogs I don't normally feel the need to explain myself but I'm tired of seeing these threads on top everytime I come here by whiny britfags claiming gloryhunting or bandwagoning. It's not our fault only 4 teams are ever worth a damn. It's hard enough to see the Big 4 every match as Int'l PL fans having to resort to choppy SopCast feeds or TVAnts, I can't imagine trying to root for Nottingham Forest, you'd never get to see anything. I halfway understand where you guys are coming from, especially if you've always rooted for perpetual underdogs, but again that's not our fault and those are your issues that you're putting on everybody else. Just like it's not my fault I grew up here & went to UGA instead of Sac State or WTFever you're talking about that I've never heard of... just like it's not someone else's fault if they root for Chelsea & you grew up supporting Millwall. So fucking GET OVER IT, and yourselves, already. Glory Red & Black!
