Olympic Bullshit Boxing Anonymous
Why does NBC think anyone wants to watch this bullshit. Boxing fans think its boring and has a ridiculous scoring system and nonboxing fans obviously hate it. But this is all they fucking show on UHD during the day. Nearly every single match in every single weight group. Seriously what the fuck were they thinking.

Quite frankly I enjoy a good boxing match where the participants are able to enjoy chewing gum immeadiately afterwards.

Amateur boxing is a hell of a lot more entertaining than pro boxing nowadays.

Can someone explain the scoring system? A point comes from clean punch to the face? No points for other areas?

>amateur boxing is bullshit, and it doesn't even make for a good transition to professional boxing

well wouldn't you have to start as an amatuer to become a professional? I don't know much about boxing but that's how most pro athletes start out that way.

I can understand the point system in that they are trying to make it a less subjective sport where the boxers determine the result of the bout, but as always they need a JUDGE to count the hits, which handcuffs them in what they are normally supposed to do.

Shits flawed, I just watch it for the fights, and not the scores.

Yeah, most of the best pro boxers fought at the Olympics - Ali, Tyson, De La Hoya etc... Amateur boxing is almost a totally different sport though - it's highly technical and the judging is a hel of a lot more transparent than the fucked up judging you see in pro bouts. Pro boxing can be a million times better, but it's driven by money rather than medals and so it has suffered over the years under the burden of hype and personalities like Don King.

I like both kinds of boxing, but it isn't fair to dismiss amateur boxing because of the pads etc - That's missing the point.

headgear is there to prevent cuts from head clashes, etc. i know its pussy but boxing is barely allowed in the olympics because its "too violent" as is, imagine how much more "violent" it would appear without the gear.. but yeah i agree its fucking stupid. i started a thread like this a week ago talkin about the same shit

professional >>>>>> olympic/amateur

only reason i watch it is because occasionally you see guys like cassius clay, evander holyfield, george foreman, roy jones jr, etc. before they become huge pro boxers.
