The Japs and Koreans like baseball MUCH MUCH more than we do in the states.

No one besides Cuba cares about Olympic baseball since it's right in the middle of MLB.

I don't know. I'm Korean and whenever I watch baseball match on TV, stadium is almost empty. But I heard it's still pretty popular in China and Japan.

For all my ripping on Canada so far, this is an absolute disgrace to America.
Win or don't come home.

The United States has to send minor league players, and not even top minor league players since some teams won't allow their best players to perform. The United States is basically sending kids straight out of college to play against the best every other country has to offer from their professional leagues.

Really a fair judge of talent.

The Dominican Republic has more professional baseball leagues than any other country and Japan has had professional baseball since 1930

Sadly, MLB doesn't give a shit about Olympic baseball.

None of the great American players compete.

either the NL or AL all star teams would destroy any of those countries...it wouldnt even have to be a league wide all star team

The Washington Nationals would almost definitely get gold.

What the rest of the World doesn't realize is that we're sending mostly AA players.
>> Anonymous
the rest of the world doesn't care about that sport anyway
>> Anonymous
Yeah, it's ridiculously unfortunate that the MLB won't send players once every four years for LESS THAN TWO WEEKS!
>> Anonymous
At least this is the last Olympics for baseball. I wish they could replace it with rugby instead of some dumbass martial art they're proposing.
>> Anonymous
Even if MLB players participated, the US would still have a hard time. A lot of all stars are not american, at least by birth anyways. Again, world classic...

>>244222
You must've missed the World Baseball Classic when the U.S. was beaten by the South Koreans then.

You say that now but these owners put hundreds of millions of dollars into their teams and how would you like it if your star players up and left? You would lose attendance, you would lose standing in the pennant chase and you would lose millions of dollars.

Stop being an idiot, baseball, like all other sports, is a business. Everyday of every year matters
>> Anonymous
>>244260
Well, it's midseason. Sending your best players to the Olympics would be suicide.

Unless, MLB has some two week vacay, ain't gonna happen.
>> Anonymous
>>244273
It is two damn weeks, I'm sure that most teams could sacrifice ONE player. Hell, the team wouldn't even need to practice in advance.
>> Anonymous
>>244272
And Canada! lol

>>244273
MLB players union would never let them play. Too much liability.
>> Anonymous
>>244287
when you're the one paying that player to put asses in seats, come back and call me.
>> Anonymous
>>244287
Two weeks makes a hell of a difference if you're in the middle of a pennant or wild card chase this time of year. Teams lose would lose one or two of their best players, which would be a pretty big hit. Not to mention if the players get injured playing over there... Then they're out for the rest of the season and the owners would get pissed off like crazy.

Even if they did have like a two week break in the middle of the season every four years, there's still the possibility of injury.

Oh, wow. I didn't know Billy Wagner was in the Olympics.
>> Anonymous
They play baseball at the Olympics? Hmm, well I don't want to assume US would win if they sent a real team (like basketball) but I will say they would do better. World Series > Olympics in America. And when you think about it, the top players in the world play in the MLB so it's probably the harder venue anyways.
