I've seen a lot of discussion about the next Olympics on /sp/ (and about its horrible logo) but not about the one after that, the one that may be taking place in Chicago (and just look how beautiful its logo would be).
From what I have heard we've pretty much got it locked up, unless Rio shapes up. The other two cities are nonstarters because of games being held recently on their respective continents.
What have you heard?

When the Olympics come to Chicago we get some Olympic events here in my town... over 100 miles from downtown Chicago... wtf?! We have some of the best man-made white water shit in the U.S. apparently.

They will use this logo again once they are elected as the host city.
The IOC does not allow applicant or candidate cities to use the torch symbol in their logos. Only after they're nominated as hosts can they use it.
The "old" logo will be new again once Chicago wins the bid.

Madrid's not getting it because London will just have had it and Athens just before Beijing. They try not to hold it on the same continent two times in a row.
>> Anonymous
>>294852
Yeah, but 2008 Beijing will hurt their chances of winning though. Don't expect them to win.

I have a feeling it will be either Rio or Chicago since the Olympics hasn't been held in South American and USA didn't have an Olympics since 1996 Atlanta, which will be 20 years in 2016.

But I have a good feeling Rio will win it all.
>> Anonymous
I for one hope they dont choose a south american shithole country
>> Anonymous
>>294852
It is in the technical aspect but that's not what decides it ultimately. Tokyo is unlikely to get it because the games will just have been held in Asia fairly recently with Beijing.
Chicago and Rio are the favorites because they're in the Americas, continents on which the games will not have been held for 20 years by 2016, for North America, and ever, for South America.
The Americas have it.
Rio may falter because it is pretty weak technically right now, but should that change it could still be the winner.

Aren't the 2010 Winter games in Vancouver?

Or does the location of Winter games have no bearing on Summer selections?

Do you think Brazil's hosting of the 2014 World Cup might have an effect on its chances for the 2016 Olympics? For example, since they're already hosting one huge worldwide sporting event, do you think there could be reluctance to give them another one just two years later?
>> Anonymous
>>294944
Well, the US hosted the World Cup in '94 and Atlanta hosted the '96 Olympics, so it wouldn't be unprecedented.
>> Anonymous
Ever been to Rio? The place is a fucking dump, full of shanties, gangs, one of the highest murder rates in the world, and cheap whores selling themselves in family restaurants. (I'm not even kidding, I was with my girlfriend in a family restaurant and I was harrassed by a couple of nigger whores, everybody thought it was completely normal)

The only nice capital in Latin America is Buenos Aires, and perhaps Santiago, but they don't want to host anything, apparently.

I hope Chicago or Madrid gets it. I fucking hate Brazil, a couple of nice beaches is all they have going on for them... the whole "hot brazilian girls" is incredibly overhyped.
>> Anonymous
>>294944
This actually could help them, as Rio 2007 (pan-american games) helped Rio 2014 (World Cup) and helps with Rio 2016.
>> Anonymous
>>294941
It sorta does, but the 2010 Vancouver already drove the nail in 2012 NYC (fuck you niggers)'s coffin. But it really only affects when it's within 2 years of each other, but it would be six years apart so I don't think it will in the end since where will would be 2012 London and 2014 Sochi.

>>294944
Where the World Cup is has no influence on the Olympic bids.

I must admit, many signs point to Brazil getting this. Why? Because South America doesn't host anywhere near the total major sporting events Europe and North America get, and even Asia gets way more then South America does.

Due to lots of shitty countries, South America and Africa don't host many big things (Summer Olympics, Winter Olympics and the World Cup come to mind), so I think the IOC wants to throw South America a bone, just as Fifa did when they gave South Africa the 2010 World Cup, and Brazil for 2014.

Brazil does have one giant flaw from a "Dibs" stand point: it has the 2014 World Cup, so there could be less votes from some nations (Why let them host two big events in 2 years?), though, I should admit, it could also increase votes for Brazil (because there will be a lot of stadiums that have to be built for the Cup, Brazil will have up-to-date venues to host all the outdoor events).

Really, Japan, Brazil and the USA have good shots, while Spain is a long shot due to London having the 2012 games, and Russia (which still considers itself in Europe, not Asia, for reasons beyond me) has the 2014 Winter Olympics. I highly doubt that anyone outside Europe will cast a single voted for Spain because of this.

Also, many people are still upset that North America has had a lot of Summer and Winter games over the decades passed, so it's unlikely there will be that many votes for Chicago.

In the end, Brazil and Tokyo are the favorites, but we will just have to wait and see who gets chozen..........

Chicago will get it after all the IOC members who oppose it have mysterious accidents.

USA sweeps all medals due to high rate of injury among foreign athletes. Several well-dressed Italian-Americans on their way to batting practice witness their unfortunate accidents, largely broken knees.

Mayor Daly vows to investigate but after nearly 15 minutes of investigation it becomes clear that there was no foul play.

Also everyone makes a fortune betting on US athletes to sweep everything. This is how Chicago works. Suck on it, Rio.

um.. how about cultural reasons. RUSSIANS ARE WHITE EUROPEANS
not to mention that they are slavs.
if poles are europeans, so are russians
the only reason russia might not consider itself european is the same as that for which america might not consider itself european (which it absolutely is btw) and that's ideological differences and geography

another reason why i think they might want to give it to chicago is because they might want to make up for that games very early on after the revival in athens and paris (i think it might have been the third games even) that was supposed to be held in chicago but was moved to st. louis at the last minute.
oh and fuck boston.
