Match starts in 12 minutes. I see Pompey getting at least a draw out of this. Man Utd is playing Fletcher and Evra as wingers. Also lol at their subs: Kuszczak, Neville, Fabio Da Silva, Rafael Da Silva, Gibson, Campbell, Possebon.
>> Anonymous
No I reckon United have got this. Rooney and Tevez up top SHOULD be able to take care of a depressed Portsmouth team. Why lol at the subs? Fabio, Rafael and Possebon are good quality players.

Draw or Pompey victory.

Van der Sar

Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea

Fletcher,Scholes,Anderson,Evra

Rooney,Tevez

Only really weak in midfield. Given that Evra will be cover O'shea as well as running up the wing a bit more than usual.

Campbell, Possebon and Fabio will probably be subs who are all good hopefuls for the future . Sahar is Pompys strike sub, he's only as good as Campbell if that.

well this performance gave me hope. a second string midfield managed to play some genuinely good football. Will it be enough to beat Liverpool? i'm not sure. What part of "This has nothing to do with dominating" do you not get? Do they have schools in GB? Can you guys read?

No shit every league has it's big teams... that's ALL THE PREM HAS. Everything outside the top 4 is shit. Clubs like Everton would struggle for a Intertoto spot if they were in Serie A. Don't get me started on the Derby Countys. Damn look at Milan. Drop the ball in Serie A and you lose your CL spot. Unlike say... Liverpool who could basically just stop playing come December and still finish 10 points ahead of Everton. Joke league.

Based on what exactly? Yeah that's what I thought.

Enjoy always being #2 to the Italians. Better domestic talent, more success in Europe, better teams outside the big 4, no retard foreign owners.. got to love Italian Football.
>> Anonymous
>>298494

La Liga is better than Serie A in many mays, but Serie A is easily the most open contest of all the big leagues this season. I support Spanish football but watch many Italian games and will be very interested to see what happens this year. I only see English teams play in the CL so I can't comment on the quality of the EPL.

Better at enjoyable football through the levels. I watch whatever is on TV if no one is their to put Hollyoaks or Skins or some crap on. Newcastle Vs Spurs or Deportivo Vs Espanyol any day over Sampdoria Vs Udinese. Or any number of matches.

Only thing Serie A defiantly has on them is channel 5 uses a Justice song as it's "theme"

How anyone can say Serie A is the best league is beyond me. Serie A hasn't been enjoyable since 1996. La Liga might be better than the EPL, but it sure as hell isn't Serie A. When I watch Serie A, I understand why Amerifag padball fans think football is boring.
>> Anonymous
>>298518
Britfags think good football is each team giving the ball away every few seconds.
>> Anonymous
In reality most English hate Italians (and Spanish to some degree, I'm not really an expert on the Spanish game) because they're jealous and want Football to be like that in England.

In Italy you have mostly domestic owners... people who care about the club and know what they're doing. People who know where they're needed and not needed. In England they bring in foreign billionaires looking to make quick money off of the teams. People who will ruin the clubs with debt and make them dependent on huge transfer budgets each and every year.

Domestic talent is also more important in Italy. Smaller clubs don't try and compete with the larger ones by spending big... they develop good talent that's right there next to them. Even the bigger clubs get into it. The impact Juve has had on the national team over the years is amazing. They've contributed at least one Italian player to each and every Italy WC squad in history. Their starting XI generally has 5-6 Italian players. What other major club does that? You can see how this impacts the national teams as well. Italy? 4 WC victories. England? Have fun wondering why you always fail.

I could go on. The fact that the English atmosphere is dead, the fact that all-seater stadiums are now the norm. The fact that you have Prem clubs voting to play games overseas. "Sit down, shut up"... that's the English Football motto. We won't be able to tell the difference from an English sporting event and an American one in a decade or so.

So yes the game is dead in your country, it doesn't mean it's dead in others. Your only argument to being the "best in the world" is the amount of Asians or Americans that watch it and buy shirts pretending to be fans. Hardly a reason to watch in my opinion.

tl;dr

"mama mia! escusi me while i make up lies about the "granduer" that is italian soccer. time to go eat my spagettio's"

Clear wasn't watching this match. Pompy fans were singing like crazy at throughout the first half. United fans could be heard singing Nemanja ooooh ooh Nemanja ooooh ooh he comes from Serbia, he'll fucking murders ya. Oh right that's right we don't have a problem with ultras or racism any more so are league must be shit. Also this isn't about national football, England are awful at the moment, and a 1996 isn't going to happen for at least another generation let alone a 66... But that has nothing to do with the league. It's to do with the player. English players are reluctant to play abroad and therefore they are as world as other nations who bring in influences from England, Spain, Italy, Germany all over the world, this affects English football more than Roque Santa Cruz signing a four year deal for Blackburn. Foreign owner this foreign that. To turn it on it's head foreign who know their football and business are a lot than 20 Mike Ashley. It's a results business is football. A successful football team is a successful business, therefore they'll do what's good for the club. Look at Chelsea and United. United have one CL under Irish rule, one under yank rule.

Serie A has let itself fall to be the third league in Europe. I think it is you that is jealous that once a powerhouse of club football has fallen to being second fiddle to a country set back so many years after Heysel.

England being awful because no one wants to play outside of England is bullcrap. A stupid excuse for the national team sucking. If it really is the best league in the world then why would you want to play in some other league?

Every single Italian player in their 06 squad played for an Italian team. I think only Saudi Arabia was the other team to do that. Most Italians who play outside of Italy fail. That doesn't stop the national side from being successful.

Oh and the English only think their clubs are doing good business. In reality your owners have fucked you over hardcore. It's kind of like the US government, you can't afford anything you do but you spend away regardless to try and stay at the top. I'm sure if Italian teams let themselves get taken over and spent more than they could afford the English would consider them "successful" as well.

Wasn't saying that was the the be all and end all reason. There are a lot of things wrong, that go all the way up to the FA boardroom when you consider the the state of the English national side. What I was saying was with the exception of two/three players in the national pool none of the them have EVER played outside England. It's been this way for years. The culture breads itself. It adds something to your game, which rubs off onto your team mates. If youth development = greatest league then none of us are right. Holland would be the greatest. Speaking of Holland wasn't the best players in Serie A in the 80s aside from a Frenchman (Platini) were Gullit and Van Basten. Oh and Inter won Serie A 2 (technically 3) years on the bounce.. And oh they are a very Italian filled side aren't they.

National =/= club level. Not going to be dragged into a national level debate. I think the best England can hope for is Quarters in WC/Euros.

Ticket prices are a fucking rip-off it was £45 (think that's 60 odd Euro) to go to the Arsenal league match at Old Trafford last season... Though it was great view. So yeah, does cut down how many matches I get to watch at OT, not the pub. But there is a little thing call supply and demand. Small supply and a high demand will drive prices through up, and I'd rather have my club profiting than a tout.

United and Chelsea will fight it out for 1st. Arsenal and Liverpool will fight it out for 3rd.

There is a reason everyone who isn't bias in someway have been saying Liverpool and Arsenal can't compete with United and Chelsea, ya know, and I'm a Wigan fan who would rather see Arsenal win it than the other three. Even if Liverpool beat United at Anfield I'll still stick by my prediction that United will come at least 9 points above them.

regardless, Liverpool won't finish 4th this season. I know I sound like an average scouse faggot when I say "this is our season", but we'll finish above 4th I am sure. United just won't be as strong as they were last season (you can't be great forever) and they're missing most of their key players (not sure when they'll be coming back), and Arsenal is just flat-out weak this season. That Fulham loss pretty much said it IMO, even if it was bullshit or luck.

And it's hard to deny that Chelsea won't finish first this season, unless they fail late in the season.

LOL everyone acts like Ronaldo is out until Christmas. He'll be back in October. Carrick is back in 2 weeks (with the international break he might be back by Liverpool and def. Chelsea). Park and Hargreaves should be back by Friday. Berbatov will be here soon enough.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have been healthy (minus Macherano and Babel at the Olympics) and barely won both their games, relying on last minute goals/Middlesborough failing hard. 2nd place my ass.
>> Anonymous
>>298726
At least you're not saying you're gonna win it...

Ronaldo's back in October, I think Hargreaves and Carrick are back before that, but I'm not sure.

Liverpool have been lucky to get 6 points really, winning in the last 10 minutes against teams who came in the bottom half last season. Also you have pretty much your full team playing - if Gerrard or Torres get crocked for a month two and you'll be in trouble. You'll probably beat United at Anfield, been a long time coming, but still can't see the top two being anything other than United and Chelsea.
>> Anonymous
>>298546
>The fact that the English atmosphere is dead

As opposed to half full Italian stadiums, where the few fans that show up are over 9000 meters away (yay for running tracks). Just because you light flares, chant racism/fascism, and riot outside, doesn't mean you have a good atmosphere. Sure, there are some English teams that have terrible atmospheres, but overall it's still great.
>> Anonymous
>>298747

yeah you're right. The middlebrough win definitely had me worried and it's gonna take a while for us to get our shit together where we don't have to rely on stoppage time fuck-ups in order to scrape out a win.

Hopefully Keane will prove useful, haven't really seen much out of him. And if we get Barry at least we won't be totally fucked if Gerrard gets knocked. But that whole thing is doubtful, Barry isn't going anywhere for a while.
>> Anonymous

Should Torres get injured, even if (and it's a very big if at the moment) Keane recaptures him Tottenham form, he isn't the type of player who can play up front on his own like Torres can. As good a player as Keane is he's not very fast or powerful which you need to play effectively as a lone striker. Kuyt and Voronin are absoulte wank, as I'm sure you know. Maybe Babel would be a good partner for him but that's only a possibility, and would leave you with no good wingers.
