rest-of-the-world-football equivalent: 94th minute, your team one goal down. a run begins from your team's 6 yard box or so, and during the course of the run, well over a dozen improbable, cross-pitch passes are made, including several that miss the intended player but still end up in your team's possession. ref decides to permit play to continue after 94th minute concludes because of the attack in progress (in US football, even after time 'stops' the play in progress is permitted to conclude). during this whole time, each pass is made right as the possessing player is tackled, yet still finds its mark. at the conclusion of the run, the ball is shot on goal, and blocked by the opposing keeper, right in front of your own team's keeper, who has run down the pitch in order to assist in the final attack. he puts the ball into the back of the net, and the refs are so awed the count the goal as worth 1.5 points instead of 1, and your team wins.

... more or less.

oh, also forgot to mention, this is a national championship game (division iii) - so something along the lines of maybe the UEFA cup.

>>128225
ah yes, the brilliant witticisms of our international friends. please do tell me again, good sir, about how the powerful rushes of air from near misses can cause your most skilled and talented athletes to writhe on the ground for minutes at a time.

seriously, can there be ONE fucking thread about football (USA or actual) that doesn't devolve into a gigantic e-penis competition between two groups of people that have nothing better to do with their time?

Oh wow, thats amazing...American Footballers playing rugby!

It's basically an extended version of "The Play" with more laterals and no band out on the field. Look it up.

Americans played Rugby and went crazy...
This just shows Americans just dont know what Rugby is, but they'd love it

You call College divsion III the equivalent of the UEFA Cup? You sir are drunk. The UEFA Cup is higher than the forth tier.

It's a comparison, he's explaining it to the OP. Can you read?
>> Anonymous
>>128401
No, that was exciting and awesome because it has happened (successfully) like 4 times. If it happened a lot it would be boring and annoying.
>> Anonymous
That shit happens in Rugby all the time.

How boring your American Football must be. Wow.

this is how you would act if someone kicked a 70 yard goal with 00 seconds left in rugby
>> ??
laterals never happen in american football. that's why this rocks.

i'm fully aware that div iii isn't as high a level of competition (if we wanted to go for the closest comparison, really, DI BCS schools would probably be UEFA cup and NFL would be champs cup). i was just trying to point out that it was a title game at a lower level of competition; probably could have picked a better example.

true, the action on this play isn't entirely dissimilar to rugby (and i personally do enjoy watching it from time to time). however, the sports are significantly different, and as>>128410notes, the real reason this play is considered so awesome is because this is done so rarely in football. a rugby field is more than 20 meters wider than a football field, and the entire game (and team personnel) is built around this sort of action - but you're pretending like changes in possession don't happen constantly in rugby. it's far more damaging to lose the ball in football, because play stops if the other team recovers (you don't get to scrum for it). you can argue that's more or less fun all you want, but it explains why a play like this is both far more rare, and far more exciting when it's pulled off successfully, in american football.

ITT: People with no sense of how circumstances can affect a moment.

The only way a play like this works is if half the players on the other team stand around wondering if the play is over or not.
>> Anonymous
>>128535
I know it won the game on an improbable play but I was responding to>>128513making running through the band seem like something special.
>> Anonymous
>>128513
If there WAS a band there, they could have run OVER it though. Anyway, i like both sports equally, and i'm an Amerifag. Both have strong and weak points, but like most sports people try to compare, are not similar enough to accurately judge which is "better."

Stop spouting your opinions like children and acting like you're "trolling," folks. This is like comparing soccer to american football, it's impossible, immature, and useless.

No sport is "better" than another sport, because they are in fact DIFFERENT sports. Let me make this easier for you, you're trying to compare a Porsche and a Ducati, and see which is the better CAR. The problem is, one of them is a motorcycle. You keep going anyway.

A - American Football is loved by Americans, and slowly gaining popularity for its explosiveness, aggressiveness, team-oriented play (it's fairly rare for a single player to be able to take over a game), etc etc
B - American Football initially was built off of seeing a Rugby match, then deviated as more popular/safer rules and variations came about over a hundred and fifty fucking years. People were dying from playing "football" and the government doesn't like seeing people die because they play a game
C - American Football, Association Football, and Rugby Football are all awesome, shut the hell up
