You'll have to excuse Pujols for being under the mistaken impression that one man can lead a team to the playoffs - he's been charged with that task every year for the last 5 years.

This isn't even close, Albert Pujols flat out destroyed the National League this year. Once again he is writing his legacy as the best player of his generation and one of the best hitters ever. In a season where people were hyping up Ryan Howard and Carlos Delgado of all people for MVP, Pujols was dismantling pitching game after game. In 1998, Mark McGwire put up a 216 OPS+ for the St. Louis Cardinals, we are pretty much certain that he was juicing. Take that season out of the discussion due to steroids, and Albert's 190 OPS+ is the best all-time in National League history among right handed first baseman in a full season(1972, 1981, 1994 all being strike seasons) and the only right handed first baseman to top him in either league was Jimmie Foxx way back in 1932 and 1933. Jimmie Foxx in 1932 was also the last right hander to have a .350 BA/.450 OBP/.650 SLG season until Albert did it this year.

Ryan Howard on the other hand? Below the league average in BA and OBP along with having more strikeouts than hits.

And I'm sure there's no one out there who suspects Albert Pujols of ever using a banned substance.

I would normally NOT give the award to someone on a fourth-place team, but there wasn't anyone to provide really close competition. It's basically Pujols by default this year.

PROTIP: If Ryan Howard had managed to hit better than his dismal average of .251, the award would have been his, no contest.
>> HKK !h7MHU9L/Oo
>>474189

You forgot to mention Howard having more strikeouts than hits and having a lower OBP than Dan Uggla. Howard was a great hitter this year against right handed pitching but he was one of the worst in baseball against lefties. And don't give me that playoff team bullshit. Using that same exact logic, James Loney has a case for MVP.

Hey, according to the idiots who think Playoffs = MVP, we should only be voting for guys on playoff teams. Really, using that logic, Aramis Ramirez should be ahead of everyone because he was on the team with the best record. Their logic and argument is flawed beyond reason.

Yeah and I disagree with his thoughts on that. Doesn't change the fact he dominated the NL this year.

>>474245

The only argument Ryan Howard supporters can muster is "Pujols says MVP should go to players on playoff teams." That's it. You cannot argue production so instead you go with a quote from a player. Hey, if you wanna ignore stats and go on quotes, I can do that, too:

"Baseball is a red-blooded sport for red-blooded men. It's no pink tea, and mollycoddles had better stay out. It's a struggle for supremacy, a survival of the fittest." - Ty Cobb

Clearly, Pujols was the most supreme player so he deserves MVP.

I don't think the point is that Pujols wasn't the best player; he pretty clearly was.

It's just absolutely hypocritical to bawwww about getting shafted one year for X reason and then accept the award later under those very same conditions.
