Shit, I'll be posting because I love college football so much more than any other sport.

Are you actually questioning /sp/'s worldly knowledge?

i dated a girl that went to marshall a few years ago
and i live in lexington kentucky which is like 45 minutes from cinci and i go up there sometimes to watch the reds and lol at how much they suck (they still have the nerve to charge people 7 bucks for a goddamn beer there, and reds fans need that beer more than anyone else except maybe pirates nats and mariner fans)

Are you actually claiming that West Virginia is part of the world?

Marshall Grad here.

Team was terrible as soon as Stan Hill took the squad. The program has been in shambles since Pruett left.

Student support for the athletics is very low at Marshall too. They'll beg people to go to basketball games in the school paper, and the football team rarely sells out. Really, school spirit is low across the board there. I think it's because it's predominantly a commuter school.

Nothing puts asses in seats faster than winning. Which Marshall doesn't really do well.

The move to Conference USA helped, in theory, but it's in Year 4 now and if they don't win tonight, they're done for another year.

It's now 9-0 Cincy, btw.

Is that same coach there? You guys were completely dominant in the SoCon before you jumped to C-USA. That really sucks if you can't get support from the student body since that is such an important factor in college football games.

SoCon? What? No... it was SoCon, THEN Division I independent, THEN the MAC, THEN C-USA.

They were actually good for a year or two there in the MAC. Then they fired their coach for the step up into C-USA, and have sucked ever since. Good move, there, Herd.

My freshman year, 2003, was the last year Pruett was there. I believe it was also our last year in the MAC. Pruett was the dominant coach that won the MAC once or twice, and lead the team to dominate division II. The guy there now is named Snider, I think. He was one of Pruett's assistants IIRC.

Did they just say that Marshall's QB is named Passmore?

REALLY?

My older brother was down there when Moss and Pennington were running over people. They didn't even to manage to sell out consistently even then.

Minor GET.

Playing against the likes of Toledo and Eastern Michigan doesn't really help, I don't think. I think the goal of C-USA was to help that, but so far it hasn't panned out. I'm pulling for them, though...

YA HERD?

My critique of the move to the USA. It's mainly negative.

Marshall now, mainly, plays squads that are located from far away. The team's fans don't travel well, and it also hurts home attendance because folks aren't intrested in the USA teams coming into town. The MAC has squads that were closer, and many that were in or near the region so there was a lot more interest from the fan base.

Granted, if Marshall could start competing in the USA, then attendance will go up. Or, even, a move to the Big East. They can't compete with the Big East right now, but it would whip up a lot of fan support plus there are plenty of regional Big East teams.

LOL at some fan that had a sign which read "I've got a HERDON!"

No. It's herdon. It's a really terrible lame cheer we had at Marshall. Every time at a game that cheer is done I face palmed. Every time I saw on around town, I head palmed. It's really lame.

That's reasonable, attendance-wise, but remember that C-USA has 5 or 6 bowl tie-ins, and the MAC only has 2. And though geographically the MAC may be closer, C-USA has more name recognition with the likes of East Carolina, Southern Miss, and Memphis. When a more famous team comes to your home field (whoever your home team may be), attendance goes up.

If the Herd could ever MAKE a bowl game now that they're in C-USA (which in theory should be easier to do), I'm sure attendance would be great. If you're in West Virginia, you're excited to be invited ANYWHERE.

Marshall FOR THREE....

Holy crap, they just hit a 51-yarder. NICE. ... of course, now they're only losing 16-3, but STILL...
