Soccer moms Anonymous
I don't get it.

In most media, you always see pre-teen American kids play soccer as a sport. You know in those crappy sitcoms and cheesy family movies. Even middle class, suburbanite, white, married women are commonly known as soccer moms instead of football or basketball moms.

However, soccer isn't a popular sport in the States unlike American football, baseball or basketball. Now why is this?
>> Anonymous
typically those types of mothers are complete pussies

they don't want their kids getting hurt

soccer is viewed more as a soft sport where as football is viewed as a rough sport

this is why as you see guys hit the mid-upper teens there's a big shift to football

one thing foreign people fail to realize is how rough american football is. they make fun of the pads and stuff, but they have no fucking clue what a train wreck things would be without what they do wear.

if you're the mom of a little kid then seeing them mostly just run around for an hour or two is great. there's very little contact.

with football the kids are at too much risk, especially since things like head injuries are more devastating at younger ages. potential is high for broken bones.

LOL, no

I've played both, the contact in rugby isn't nearly as rough as in football, the pads let people turn their bodies into weapons of death and destruction, it's a collision sport, where rugby is a contact sport.

more older teens play football than younger teens play soccer.

football is fucking brutal. rugby players hit and everything, but no rugby player could play football. why? because football players hit way too hard.

This post is correct. The term "Soccer Mom" is actually referring to their over-protectiveness of kids. They can be athletic, play a sport but don't harm my baby.

Why not tennis? It's not a team sport. It is important for the soccer mom for their child to be social with others. White suburbia thrives on this.

I'd rather have a soccer mom than a nascar dad.

A lot of parents like soccer because unlike baseball, you don't have the pressure of being the last out. The whiny "everyone is as good as everyone/we're all special crowd" loves kids soccer because it's not putting as much pressure on one individual.

he's talking about kids. not professional players.

Anyway, I do realize how rough american football is. And yeah with protective gears, they definitely try to hit as hard as they can.

Fernando Torres was star player even when he was as 12 year old, dude. That "no pressure" thing does not apply when you're the bloody striker.

Torres probably went to football academy back in spain.
We're talking about kids in the u.s. playing soccer to have some fun. They don't even train, probably just need to warm up before the match.

That's not really the same thing since pro clubs in the U.S aren't fielding youth teams to scout for talent.

I played soccer until I got until I got to 7th grade. All the soccer moms hated me because I would shoulder tackle their weak little kids. Once I hit 7th grade I joined a real sport and put my hittin to good use.

That's how it usually goes down. As soon as your not afraid to get knocked around, you filter Soccer out of your life.

Soccer is a very popular sport for girls, because its virtually non-contact. In the fall girls can either play the above or field hockey (lol). So in the 50% chance you have a girl there is a good probability she will at least try soccer once and make her parental unit a soccer mom by proxy.
