A couple of reasons why Fluke Lee is the AL Cy Young winner.

1. Its a fluke. Fluke Lee is never going to repeat anything close to this year. He's not going to reach the amount of wins, not going to reach the ERA, just not going to be as good as he is next year.

2. The fluke amount of wins. Fluke Lee won 23 games next year, and he won't just lose 3 games next year. In the flukest of fluke seasons, he was Cy Young material. Hey, Zito won a Cy Young, I guess Fluke Lee can to.

3. K-Rod is his biggest competition. K-Rod has the saves, but Fluke Lee has the Fluke season. We know K-Rod can get 50 saves, but Fluke Lee is never reaching 20 wins again, and is unlikely to reach 15 next year. K-Rod can win his Cy Young next year, Fluke Lee will never get that chance.

Same K-rod fag from a couple days ago. Just go die somewhere, no one fucking cares. The Cy Young doesn't mean anything since Gagne won it.

K-Rod doesn't deserve the Cy Young.

who gives a fuck about next year. it is about what he did this year, which is fucking dominate.that domination included the angels when he pitched a complete game 4 hitter for the 3-2 win in august. So stfu quit your fucking baaaaawwwwwing and give the man the respect he deserves. 22-3 suck it

Clif Lee is a terrible pitcher he just got lucky this year, K-Rod broke a record.

4. Fluke Lee's ERA. Lee leads the AL league ERA at 2.54 beating up cream puffs such as the Royals and Twins to the coveted beating up cream puffs of the AL Central award. That he doesn't have to pitch in the AL East is an advantage to Lee as his other main competition Roy Halladay has to pitch against the three best teams year in and year out in the Red Sox, Yankees and Rays.

5. Fluke Lee is the face of the Indians. We all know about the Red Sox's push to make the roster full of pasty White guys, but the Indians are making the same push. Out goes colorful African Americans such as Milton Bradley, and C.C., in comes shy, useless players like Pronk, and Garko. Cliff Lee is part of this new found whiteitude of the Indians. Trading Carmona for Reggie Wiltis also fits into the Indians plans.

Hence closers should NEVER EVER win Cy Youngs. Fucking epic failure.

Meaningless record is meaningless. "Saves" is a made up stat, and holds no water whatsoever. It's a number given to failed Starters on good teams who manage to maintain a sub-18.00 ERA

>FACT: For every good year Cliff Lee has, he follows it up with two bad years.

lol@retard hurting his case. You just admitted Lee had a good year. The Cy isn't given to 'Pitcher with the best potential seasons ahead of him, or best track record over his career'. Best pitcher that year.

You're hosed, brah. Better luck next year winning the NL Cy with the Mets. Ahahaha, oh wait, you're an Angels fan, grats first round exit ahahahahahahahaha.

7. The Cy Young isn't awarded to the best pitcher anymore.

The Cy Young is an affirmation of the pitcher ESPN wishes to promote. It is not awarded to the pitcher that pitched the best. Just like the MVP is not awarded to the best player.

Cliff Lee's 2005 stats:

18-5
3.79
202 IP

He's not a fluke. I doubt he'll put up the same numbers (from this year) consistently every year, but he's still gonna get you 15+ wins a year with an ERA under 4. He's got Ace type stuff.
>> Anonymous
>>422612

2006: 14-11 4.40 ERA, 200.7 IP
2007: 5-8 6.29 ERA 97.3 IP

Like I said, one good year, and then two bad years. That's 'ace' stuff right there.

You know what would be a good comparison to Cliff Lee? Carlos Silva.

2006: 11-15 5.94 ERA, 180.3 IP
2007: 13-14 4.19 ERA, 202.0 IP
2008: 04-15 6.46 ERA, 153.3 IP

Similar numbers for similar players.

>>422557

Check the WHIP, faggot.

Not to mention he's SECOND ALL TIME IN SAVES, behind Trevor Hoffman. But he plays AAAA ball, so that doesn't count.
>> Anonymous

How are those similar? Fail.
>> Anonymous
>>422632

You're right. Carlos Silva is the better pitcher.
>> Anonymous
>>422618
Carlos Silva has had only one decent season. Lee has had two spectacular seasons, two decent seasons, and an injury-shortened season.

Cliff Lee is 76-39 in his career. Silva is 59-61
+37 in wins is the same as -2 in wins?

Lee's ERA is 4.15, which could be better, but is still significantly better than Silva's 4.61
>> Anonymous
>>422642
Wins are nearly meaningless. Lern2baseball

>> Anonymous
>>422642
Wins don't necessarily make a pitcher good, is what I guess you're saying? In a single season, I agree, but when you're 37 games over fucking .500 in your 5+ year career, you've got to be doing something fucking good. Unless the Indians have been scoring 20 runs per game throughout his career, Cliff Lee has pitched well enough to win several times.
>> Anonymous
>>422655

Matt Cain is a better pitcher than Cliff Lee. He has a career 30-43 Win-loss record and a 3.74 career ERA, and an ERA+ of 118.

Cliff Lee has a win loss record of 76-39, a career ERA, and an 106 ERA+.

So what does win-loss records really mean? Just that your team's offense is probably better than average. Not exactly the most subjective stat.

Livan Hernadez has an 147-139 win loss record, a 4.37 career ERA, and a 97 ERA+. Because Livan won more games than he lost over his career, does that mean Livan is a better pitcher than Matt Cain? Of Course not!

>K-Rod's job is to go in and not mess up.

Angelfag here. This is pretty much right on the money. I have no fucking clue how Frankie ended up with so many saves given his performances during them. I dont know what % of his saves were ES, but its probably pretty low. Seems like every time he came out to save the game it was an adventure.

He's somebody else's problem though now. Arredondo is (perhaps) a superior replacement, and we cant afford to spend money on worthless shit like saves if we want to keep Tex, which we probably wont anyway.

Frankie will end up on a team that goes after overrated shitty players with meaningless stats. Given that, and the fact that he's hispanic, he's pretty much a lock for a Met's uniform next year.
>> SSG Posted Here
>>422716
Another Angelsfag here; Really, I think it would be better for the Angels to re-sign Tex, look for another good hitter, and flip the bird to K-Rod. That guy is a good closer, but he is far from being the best. They should look for a good cheap one from a shit team (ie Royals, Pirates, Reds, Nationals, Giants, etc) while the Mets will get a new failure for the failpen.
>> Anonymous
>>422758
You dont think Arredondo is ready?
>> ???????????
lol. let Lee have his Cy Young, it's the sort of table scraps that Ohio needs to not kill theirselves. They cannot win at anything. they need secondary post-seaon awards to make their bleak lives seem better.

But id B. Webb gets screwed out of a 20+ win year by Lincecum....

Lol. I don't give a shit. That's the benefit of living in a nice place.
