anyone on /sp/ trade or collect? I haven't done it in 14+ years and wanna try it again. Are there websites now where you can post trades aside from ebay?

Can't say I'd recommend it. Inserts made things more exciting at first but practically ruined the hobby for me later on, add professional grading and all that type faggotry and decent pack of cards these days are probably upwards of $5-10 per pack depending on what you want, crap or the good stuff, guaranteed auto, etc. Remember when Becketts guides used to go all the way back to the beginning, and list damn near every card? Now just this decade alone is enough to fill it, hardly anything is listed unless you buy the encyclopedia sized one. Ever since individual stamped #'s and auto's, jersey cards, etc drove the price up, all the fun has been sucked out of it IMO. Nothing more exhilarating than spending $20 for one pack of cards and getting a couple 40 year old journeyman backup middle infielder types in baseball, or speedy claxton or junior seau... not to mention how extreme they fluxuate over one decade alone. I pulled a Shaq 'Beam Team' out of a pack 10+ years ago, guy in the store offered me $100 on the spot for it, I was like no way! Now it might be worth $15 if I'm lucky, maybe lower. McGuire rookies are going for about a nickel on eBay right now too. Unless you're just trying to collect singles of your fave team/players, I just don't see the point anymore in buying tons of random packs or waxboxes, if you could even afford the latter in this day and age...

Phew...14 years is a long time, and there'd be a steep learning curve as now you have to deal with $100 packs, limited inserts, memorabilia cards, SIGNED memorabilia cards, limited memorabilia SIGNED insert cards, and also the PSA which lets you turn huge profits if you happen to have a "gem mint" common card.

I liked it better when they were just diecutting them into random shapes and putting sparklies on the inserts (ie Wave of The Future, heat-sensitive inks), but hey...I still have fun.
