Kendo Anonymous
Not sure if this would fit better into /jp/ or not. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew what Dans university students who participate in those All Japan tournaments have, or if they're able to attain those Dans at that point at all.

Side-question: Are there some competitive Kendo Tournaments in Europe?

I think they call it fencing

Seriously, if it's a 'martial sport' that's not MMA or boxing, you might get a better response from /jp/.

MMA or boxing...
Unfortunately you are right, you'd get a better response from /jp/.

Though I personally think that even the stupidest asian combat sport is better than mma or boxing (in b4 shitstorm), I can't help you very much.

But I encourage you to do kendo. don't do shit like fucking full-contact-sports.

Also: You can't compare Kendo to Fencing, the only comparable thing is that you carry a weapon that resembles a bladed weapon and one-hit-one-point rules. The philosophy and behaviour in-fight is completely different.

In my opinion the purpose of combat-sports is getting better control of your body and train it. In this regard, boxing or any other kind of full-contact shit is fucking useless.
If you just want to fight, you don't need "sport" with technique at all and should just train your body in a fitness-center and fight in semi-contact free-style fighting-clubs and torunaments.
If you want to train for a fight with some kind of sport, typical "asian" martial arts are better, as you actually learn to use your body in more than one way and you get a fighting-philosophy that's not "lol, hurt your enemy real badly by repeatedly hitting him on the head".

Just wanted to say.

It is a japanese sport, but it is a sport nonetheless. I see no problem with it being discussed in /sp/.

The European Championship is held every year (except World Championship years). The agenda page on their website shows some smaller tournaments.

Ahhh /sp/, with your bullshit elitist attitude about what is and isn't a sport. Don't ever change.
