Goodbye NBA Sonics Fan
Good bye Sonics. You like your NBA team? David Stern doesn't give a fuck. There is no good reason for Sonics to leave yet David Stern and the owners are going to let it happen. Why? To make a quick buck. New Orleans, enjoy your team while you can until they move them to Kansas City.
>> Lambchop's Death Legion
too many people in the NBA have sympathy for NO, so they'd never move them.

Seattle though is lol.

I REMEMBER WHEN I WENT TO A SONICS GAME YEARS AGO AND GARY PAYTON WAS STANDING THERE

AND I SAID

"HEY, GARY, MAY I HAVE YOUR AUTOGRAPH"

HE SAID NO BUT I LOVED THE SONICS AND I THINK THEY EVEN WON THAT NIGHT

REST IN PEACE

They're playing in the worst arena in the NBA, it's not much of a surprise. The are NBDL and college teams playing in better arenas.

Key Arena is great, even cheap seats provide a good view. I mean we just rebuilt in 96 and Stern said it was an example of what all Arenas should be like. The arena is just an excuse to move it. NBA no longer has loyalty and this is going to be an example of how rich people can do whatever they want with sports teams. Face it, Seattle fans are content with the Key Arena, the reason why they wanted to build a new one was to make the box seats for rich people, why should I have to pay for that shit so the owner can have a better seat? I mean Clay Bennet could pay for a new arena on his own, but I'm supposed to pay taxes for something that there's nothing wrong with? Bennet can eat a fattyboombatty dick

in the seattle times:

Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer and wireless magnate John Stanton are among the local investors behind an effort to buy the Sonics and cover half the cost of a $300 million KeyArena expansion to try to keep the team in Seattle, sources confirmed Wednesday. Neither Stanton nor Ballmer could be reached for comment Wednesday night. The other members of the investment group, Costco CEO Jim Sinegal and Seattle developer Matt Griffin, have previously disclosed their own involvement. Seattle leaders are pushing the offer of private cash as a "game changer" that ought to sway state legislators to pass an arena package to keep the Sonics from moving to team owner Clay Bennett's hometown of Oklahoma City.

Clay has said time after time that he will not sell the Sonics.

I feel a little bad this is how we're getting the team, at the expense of Seattle, but all the decisions are being made by Clay and his group, and I don't see him changing his mind unless this ends up with him making a significant profit by Ballmer buying the team.

yeah a lot of shit is in this article, lots of politics. Here's the whole thing if ya'll want to read it.

I think he will change his mind and sell it if the city wins its lawsuit and they have to stay here until 2011, he'll want to sell it for the amount of money he'll lose waiting.
I just don't understand how they NBA is letting a team move to such a smaller market. Just look at Chris Wilcox for example, he said he wouldn't resign with the team if they moved because he likes living in Seattle and wouldn't want to live in Oklahoma City, and how can you argue? Would you want to live in a place where you have to be worried about getting bombed all the time?

First, I don't see the city winning the lawsuit, but if they do it will definitely make things much more interesting.

Oklahoma City is a small market in comparison (30th biggest city/45th ranked media market, though Tulsa will factor into the latter), but it would be an otherwise untapped market. OKC consistently supported the Hornets even though we had Stern constantly reminding us that they were going back to New Orleans. Yeah Stern, we know they're going back, why can't you just let us have our delusions in peace?

Chris Paul and other Hornets have said that they thought OKC was great, and I wasn't aware a single bombing equated to being "bombed all the time".

The cvrperates behind the sonics don't give a fuck about winning, they just want money, and thats just fucking gay.

I think he was referring to the Oklahoma City bombing. I guess he figured that, compared to Seattle, there's a statistically higher chance of being truck bombed based on past stats.

Fuckin LOL...anyway I live in Oklahoma City..we just passed a bill(?) to improve the Ford Center(where the Hornets played) and most people are saying it's a pretty much a sure thing the Sonics will be here next year.

yep, it's bullshit.

somehow the hornets get to stay in NO. what a farce.

I'm outside the Seattle area and I wonder why is KeyArena is considered such a crappy arena? I know it was recently renovated, but I guess that wasn't enough. You gotta take care of the rich guys and their demand for luxury suites.
>> Anonymous
>>29257

KeyArena was built since the 50s right? Along side the development of the SpaceNeedle. I guess they don't have any luxary boxes or any modern doodad. It didn't matter anyway that Clay guy was planning the move the team anyways regardless if we built a trillon dollar Arena.

New Orleans is good. Sonics are not. You see? Also, St.Louis imo would be the best place to put Seattle. Blues, Rams, Cardinals, only one sport left to join the likes of Dallas, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston, Detroit and Denver as 4-team cities, a.k.a the Market Raepers.
