Here's something I do when I have to pack a papercraft: I have an old book that they made me buy at school, and its completely useless (I'm an engineer and it was one of those assignments that they make you take just because they doesn't have any other better one) anyway, everytime I need to pack something excesively fragile (AKA papercraft) I rip off a bunch of pages, cut them in little pieces, crumble them, and Voila! you have a perfect and light packaging material! (I don't know if you can say it like this in english... anyway, like the plastic bubbles that come with everything) its way better than anything else because it won't crumble your papercraft, nor deform it, and not even let it move. once you have it secured in a box, your real problem will be to get a very sturdy box and stamp it as fragile. anyway, it doesn't matter how much they hit the box, your papercraft will be sure as long as the box resists. I've used this trick several times to transport papercrafts inside my backpack, with my university books (wich by definition are big and heavy)so be sure that if the box is filled with those paper strings you papercraft will be safe
