>> Anonymous

the other pieces are for if you want a more detailed WCC, they can be assembled and attached to the basic cube at the corners and edges.

As predicted, people saved the wrong (beta) template with curved corners that can't be built as is...
Do some surgery on the curves to build it, or some MS Painting to make them straight.

i tried on the hearts. curves should be right, but i havent tested it.

Maybe make the tabs on your new hearts a little bigger.
Of course people can just cut them bigger, but people are stupid (they really are, unfortunately...) and most will just blindly follow all the lines the creator made without thinking... ;) Plus it makes for a more "finished" template.
And I think that if you add something new, improve something, that of course you should always still credit the original designer like you do, but maybe you should also include your own with what you changed exactly. ;) In the end, the credit list may have several people on it, it's fun to read the history and see how people kept improving it. ;)

Could you provide instructions? I've never made papercraft before, and am not sure where those little tiny box things go.

Look at pictures of WCC.
Look at pictures of completed WCC in thread.
Figure it out.

i'm taking this as my first papercraft project. I've lurked here for a while, but always thought the stuff was way too complicated for me to make. I figured a cube couldnt possibly be all that difficult (1 hour, 2 hours tops, right?)

I'm about an hour and a half into it and i have the box & 1 corner done, and 7 corners and 10 edges to go. This is a lot harder than it looks, which makes all the stuff i see here that much more impressive.

any good noob advice?

take your time. it was the second one ive ever done and it took around 6 hours total. the fact i had huge kitchen scissors for tiny cuts didnt help though.

The Weighted Companion Cube seems to be a lot of new people's first models. Problem is, it's not an easy model to make at all.

In case you haven't, watch the basics video

http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/global/entertainment/papercraft/howto/index.html

Always go slow and take your time. One thing a lot of beginners make is adding GLOBS AND GLOBS of glue. Only a tiny bit is necessary and the more glue you use the more soggy the part/model will be.

I was going to link to wikichans article on papercraft, but wikichan keeps saying "THIS ACCOUNT HAS BEEN SUSPENDED" when I've never had an account there. Maybe it's down or something.

also, for me it worked to glue down one side of a corner or edge piece, and start cutting/gluing together a different one as the glue dried. then glue down another side to the cube and attach the other part. that way you arent wasting too much time waiting for glue to dry, or struggling to keep everything down while trying to glue all the sides at once.

I can't wait to get a sewing machine to make a plush one of these.

Questioin: is everyone printing the template on one sheet of paper or resizing it?

Thanks for the pattern!

This was my first papercraft - came out a little lumpy.

Awsome, thanks. :D

are we supposed to resize this or what?

not bad for your first model.

protip: use 110 lb cardstock next time. it's a lot more sturdy than computer paper :3

Seriously, what did everyone use for printing this?
>> Pooter
I used cardstock and scotch tape (should've used glue). Split each panel and corner piece to a separate page and I printed the small edge parts onto three pages (8.5 x 11).
