I was the one on the receiving end of the models, but my computer crashed. I managed to backup all of the models and textures, but not any of my installed programs. I will be working on them when I get them all back. In the mean time I would suggest that you not wait on me. Someone else can make them if they want(It's not like I own the models or the right to make them lol)

Last I heard, somebody suggested a way to simplify the models so they wouldn't have all the 90 degree valleyfolds (like at the center ring between the top and bottom half and the button at the front) which are quite hard to build, with the tabs not glueing properly to the parts (especially when you get to the part where you can't reach inside anymore).

Even when it's simplified to this it's still a pain in the ass to build. But I guess that's what we get for a round ball.

But I have to ask, why is the simplified one not using much easier techniques to achieve the same thing? Like curving the middle one instead of folding.

I don't really understand your question, or maybe you don't understand what the image is: it's a "render" of the 3D model, so it's showing all the polygons. When you build it, then of course it's possible to not score and not fold all the edges but curve them... It would indeed save a whole lot of time and effort to NOT do all that scoring and folding...

Round things are actually surprisingly easy to build; when you glue the first two oval "petal" parts together (if you want to use that technique) you'll automatically get the curve because of the oval shapes.
Or you can use the "truncated" cones technique, some say it's even easier, some say it's not.
You can reach inside all the time, and then when you have half the ball, you glue a circle to the bottom, piece of cake...
Then you make a cylinder (a strip of paper where you glue together the two ends...) then two circles on top and bottom of the cylinder (not even really necessary, but it might help to keep a perfect round shape when you glue it to the two ball halves) and then the other half of the ball.
Easy.

You mean for the center part, why not make it a smooth cylinder instead of a cylinder with folded edges? In a model (except for NURBS) there can not be smooth curves. They need to be created with smaller "flat" pieces to give the illusion of being round. I could have given the cylinder more sides to make it smoother but that would mean a lot more tabs. I think you can be ableto not to fold the edges and make it look pretty smooth.

And don't forget it can't be an EXACT sylinder, because the front of the cylinder needs to be flat so you can easily glue the button on (otherwise you'd have to make it much more difficult with cutting out a round shape out of a round shape...)
