Papercraft construction tips Anonymous
I just printed out the giant Sailor Moon model and have yet to construct it, but I need a few tips regarding how to reinforce it or to make it stand on its own.

And no, I didn't print it on card stock; a girl at at Office Depot told me doing so would damage my printer.

You must have some really shitty printer or a laser printer or something. Also, it'll only stand on its own if you make it perfectly, something that I'd never be able to do. I agree, either put skewers in her legs or glue her feet to a heavy object.

Probably this.

In some models that are big enough, I put loose change laying around inside of them. That's how the Dratini stood up on its own. It has about 75 cents in it.

Also cardstock should be fine in your printer, but just to be safe, show us which one you have.

It's a matter of balance.
Don't make the torso, then the arms, then glue the arms to the torso, then make the head, glue the hed to the torso, then the legs, then glue the legs to the body...
Make all the parts, and only when you made them all, glue them all together. That way, you can move the legs and arms around a bit to find the right balance to suit the pose of the arms, it'll easily stand on its own if you get the balance right, which really is not very hard to do if you're patient enough to not glue everything together the way you happen to put it together at the first touch. ;)
The kind of homeprinters that "pull/roll" the paper through usually have no problem with thicker cardstock, the kind of printers that look more like copiers often do. Cardstock really is best for papercraft, especially at this size. With regular paper, you might get dimples everywhere.

That's fine. I have a printer like that, where the paper curls up inside, and cardstock goes through it just fine.

Thats the same printer i have at my house and it takes cardstock just fine. just don't put anything heavier than 67# The Ink cartridge cant produce high quality color on paper any thicker than that and still be good for more than 20 sheets. the printer itself however, will accept paper up to 110# without any problems.

I have a couple tubes of lead pellets for the BB gun I had as a kid. I glue about 2 in each foot to help balance the models. The only one that doesn't quite stand on her own is San-chan. Due to the chibi style her head makes her unstable to I glued her to a circle of paperboard.
