Ok, I think I just got mad, I have 0 experience making papercraft and 0 experience at any kind of 3d related programs that could be used to make papercraft, still, I decided I wanted an Immortal model so I'm fucking wrestling here to make one, any comments on this... errr.. leg?

Beside, any tips to make my life easier using Google Sketch up 6?

the pieces need to be longer

use the google video tutorials and learn photomatch

Please, excuse mu ignorance but.. google video tutorial?

Sorry, I'm really fucking new to this, can yo be a bit more specific?
>> Anonymous
>>75828
google it
>> Anonymous
>>75843
Already done, to bad the pic is way to complex to do it exactly like in the tutorial but I guess I now can do it way more inaccurately, thanks.

so you can do it way more wrong?

ive been doing 3d for a few years now but don't have any experience in sketchup so i cant help ya there. But if you got that far that fast its quite impressive, i say just keep hitting your head against the wall and play w/ all the tools and you will get it. Best way to learn software. keep it up.

inaccurately means badly, wrong, the opposite of accurate, etc...

oh shit, I just now notice my mistake. XD
sorry, firefox spell check fixed it the wrong way. XD

Is this leg any better?

Legs are done. =)

wow!
it's coming out very nice!
>> japanese spy
wow quite impressive. i just dl sketchup to play with it but could not figure out how you mirrored the or duplicated the part four times or if you actually just made it four times. But nice work.

To duplicate old Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V works just as in any other program, then you can rotate them manually if you need precision or you can flip them using the Green, Red and Blue axis.

Well, I finally finish the lower body.

>>76395
how long did that take you to make?
>> Anonymous
>>76403
Lets see, I stated with 0 knowledge at 14:30 o'clock and now are 3:30 so it toke me a lot. XD

I'm very proud of myself right now, I mean, for someone that never had touched any 3D program before I think I did very acceptable job. =P
>> Anonymous
wow, sketchup is this easy to use that you did all this with absolutely no experience with 3d modeling? that's incredible.
>> Anonymous
>>76405
yeah, Is a bit hard at first since I had to do a lot of trial and error, but when you start to understand the basics it become way easier.

Still I'm sure I'm doing some stuff the hard way, the program should have a lot of shortcuts to do stuff faster but since is the first time I use it I may be unaware of them, but I'm used to it, I mean, it was the same when I learned to use Flash or any other program. XD

>>76408
doing things the hard way often results in a better model because you control every minute detail of the model and nothing is automatic
>> Anonymous
>>76408yeah, Is a bit hard at first since I had to do a lot of trial and error
That's the best way to learn yourself stuff like this, keep it up!

So true.

hey OP, great job on the model for being your first one, beats the hell out of mine lol.

Unfortunately I'm going to have to be the party pooper here and tell you that this may not go as well as planned:

In order for a 3D model to turn into a papercrafts, make sure you have no intersecting polygons (pieces inside another). from that last screenshot it looks like the cylinder is intersecting from the body and not part of the piece. of course I may be wrong by judging from the picture.

Another thing is curves and circles are very difficult to build as a beginner, but at least thats doable.

Lastly, if the legs are duplicates, then when you actually build it you will have to glue each legs to the body without tabs.

anyhow, good job so far!

>>76480it looks like the cylinder is intersecting from the body and not part of the piece.
You mean this part? I just figured he still needed to do that but just hadn't got around to it yet. ;)
Same goes for all other small things: to make a good connection between a round and a flat part, you need to make the flat one curved a little, or the curved one flat a little, like he did with the bigger cylinders on the legs.
Oh and if the legs are duplicates: you only need to make one, then just print it out 4 times. Might save some time in Pepakura (you can't copy the cuts you make on one part to another part).
I hope you keep working very methodically and precise, otherwise Pepakura will start complaining about badly connected pieces. I think that's the biggest worry when you have a lot and interseting parts that you have to cut up and reconnect. It's so easy to make a small mistake/imperfection that you don't notice, but Pepakura does...
Good luck!

the whole thing about the legs there is actually awesome. that makes it poseable (at least before the glue dries)
>> Anonymous
>>76480
but yeah, that cylinder in the center is going to be a problem
>> Anonymous
>>76489
The way it is now, yes, but it'll take 5 seconds work to fix it when the guy comes to that. It'll be fine.
>> Anonymous
How easy would you rate google sketchup on a scale of 1 to 10 where 1 is easy?
>> Anonymous
>>76485
ummm...what? curved flat, flat curved? maybe he could just make the cylinder shorter so that it's not intersecting(it's a lot easier that way)

>>76568

I see your point, however I don't know If its really a problem since that cylinder is actually by itself, every part of the model is a separate group of pieces´so all what I have to do is pull it up a little. XD

ok, I will keep working in the upper body.

...
On the leg joints.
You can make those cylinders shorter all you want, but that's not gonna solve the problem of connection a round piece to a flat piece since they only touch in one point. ;)
Like I said, the top cylinder problem was 5 seconds work to fix, that's not a problem.

Nice.
