How do you /po/epole make your folds? I take the blade out of my cutter and place the thin side on the flod mark, folding the paper around it. I'm wondering how everyone else does it, especially for those tiny pieces of those complex papercrafts.

score the fold line.

With a mechanical pencil without the lead like on Yamaha's papercraft tutorial:

http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/global/entertainment/papercraft/howto/index.html

(basic instructions, folding, step 1)

Or with a dead ballpoint (make sure it's COMPLETELY empty so it doesn't write anymore or you'll ruin your papercraft) or anything else that will make an indentation in the cardstock but won't actually cut all the way through.
You can also use your knife and apply only a little pressure to only cut through the top layer of the cardstock.
If you do it right, you can fold even the tiniest parts with ease, regardless if you use regular paper or thicker cardstock.

with a sharp blade

i never really learned what scoring is

Go across the fold line with a thin point, thining out the paper where the fold is, making it a lot easier to fold, and makes the folds more accurate

Lol cutter, do you mean stanley knife?
>> Moony
personally, I score with my fingernails, to prevent going to far through the paper (as I tend to do with a blade)

yeah, i was at walmart buying my cardstock and they only had one stanley knife, what i wanted was an x-acto knife but no luck

also no mats to cut on, so i cut on a large piece of glass i have.

my papercrafting tools are ghetto

that's not scoring that's creasing. scoring is actually cutting through a very thin layer of the paper to make the fold easier. you would then go over your finished model with a marker to get rid of fold lines.

scoring sounds to dangerous for my clumsy self, but im trying this mechanical pencil thing and it's great... i'm gonna dry out a ballpoint pen to make it easier.

i knew the way i was doing it sucked but i didn't know it made this big of a difference

No, it's a photo I'm uploading. But it's still not working. :/

do you guys crease/score before or after cutting out pieces?

is it .bmp?
>> Anonymous

before, because it's really hard to score small pieces if they are cut out already.

jpeg, so annoying =/

turn it into png cause that worked for me

I use a file to score.

Thanks! It worked :]

I use a mechanical pencil without lead. Anything else just seems to take way too much time.
