Papercraft fails because it takes absolutely no skill. There's not enough origami on this board.

I think it's quite right to say that the fold diagrams most origami designers draw up are very difficult to understand.
With papercraft, it's very easy to understand how you need to fold a certain part, while on origami, you sometimes need to fold the same piece of paper in 100 different ways, trying to understand a diagram with arrows and lines everywhere...

And 4Chan isn't the kind of /po/eple that like to do things just because it's challenging, /po/eple here only do this stuff because it looks kick-ass when finished!
Papercraft just looks so much better while it's generally also so much easier to do; some papercrafts rival even official resin kits (and they're certainly a hell of a lot cheaper! ;) while origami will always look like an abstract representation of whatever it was you were trying to make (nothing wrong with that, but it's not what most /po/eple here want; most of us want more "life-like" stuff).

And that's why there's so much papercraft and so little origami.

I haven't posted much origami here not because I don't do origami as much as I do papercraft, but because the best origami diagrams I usually see come from books, so I'd have to scan stuff in and give it a quick run through photoshop to put it online.
