last night I tested some varnish on my gravity gun and rollermine. I love the result alot. the colors look so much better. I only managed to make 4coat on each before the can was empty, it was already half empty before I started. so the model is still not hard as plastic but it still look great

What kind of varnish did you use? What do we need to look for to try similar? I have a couple I wouldn't mind trying this on.

the can just say "spray finish for wood and metal, inside/outside". I did my vivi model but I think I aplied too much too fast. I can see some glueing taps showing through the paper.

i guese you dont want to make them again ??? or

vivi look fine even if a few tabs show through the paper. it dried completely now and its not as bad. it only show on the whiter parts. so its a good lesson. dont spray a model thay is too light in color unless you are ready to make 20 very very thin layer of varnish. lol

I dont really know. there isnt much info on the can it just say spray finish for wood and metal. can be used inside and outside. my mom use it over her paintings. I figured if it can be used on paint its probably not too bad for the ink. and the ink didnt got all messed up.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of fixatives you can use to protect your papercrafts, some brand names that I've seen mentioned before: "Krylon #41311 Matte Finish" or "Clearcoat Acrylic Sealer" by Plaid. But there are many, MANY others. Pro tip: go to an art store and ask, tell what it is you want, and the seller will help you make a choice of the many fixatives he has in supply. If you go buy it in a regular department store, they probably sell cheaper stuff there (doesn't always mean it's not just as good!) but you'll need to know what kind of fixative you need because if you ask in a regular department store, the people there will probably know just as much or less even as you... And often they'll just tell you something, thinking you don't know anyway and so they won't look stupid. ;)
Anyway, back on topic: Most fixatives will protect against light splashes (but don't go holding your papercraft in a bucket of water) and fading of colors due to air and dust, but not from UV radiation (direct sunlight). There are special UV-lacquers available, but they're more expensive. All colors WILL fade over time if you leave them day in day out in the full sun, it's just a matter of how fast, and that depends on where you leave them and what printer/paper/ink you used.
And don't forget: several thin coats, don't try to empty the can as fast as you can... ;)

I got 4 on my roller mine and vivi model. should have putted the same quantity but 8 layers instead. the paper is glossy but not much harder. I did my roller mine more for the look than for protection. it look likethe one from the game with the glossy finish
