Personally, I'd like the move to a fully functional forum for a few reasons, all of which can be a double edged blade when you think about it-
first and foremost, organization. Here on 4chan, everything and anything ends up in one linear list, and you have to dig past several pages of random junk to come across something of interest. On a full forum, everything can be categorized into subforums so, for instance, people who are looking to find something can go to requests, and people who are looking to take up a project do the same.
Registration- this process will deter spammers, bots, and raiders, since it takes time and effort to register a new account every time with valid e-mail addresses when you start getting yourself banned over and over, as opposed to being able to get away with dynamic IP addresses around here.
no auto-pruning- Leaving 4chan for a day and finding a thread gone has always proven annoying as all hell, and with the forum system threads, as sageRgrate said, can be spam raped until the end of time and still be on the board. To save space, though, it would be a good idea for moderators to archive and delete things as necessary.
of course, that's all the stuff you're trying to avoid by staying on 4chan, right? Makes sense to want to just have a fast-moving place with something fresh on the front page here and there. The issues are still evident, it's just a matter of weather or not you want to deal with them or not.

I'm not crediting 4chan with anything more than providing a fast and accessible way to go about this. I DO credit 4chan for having /b/, and I credit /b/ for getting bored every now and again.
