Jesus H. Christ. You're mixing up volume, area and length measurements. When it comes to scale models, we look at the length. Not at the area, not at the volume. That's how scaling works. A 1:10,000 scale model of my dick, which measures 100 kilometers from tip to scrotum, will measure a tiny yet mammoth 10 meters from tip to scrotum.. This is what a scale factor is, a ratio of distances. Now, if you were to print out your model at a scale of two pages per sheet, you may intuitively think that you're printing a 50% scale model. Right? WRONG. Your model will be scaled down by a factor of, brace for it, your mind will be blown, the square root of two. You may halve the area, but distances are reduced by a factor of ~1.41. In order to print out a true 50% scale model, you'd need to print 4 pages per sheet. You scale down the area by a factor of four, but distances are merely halved. A 25% scale model would have to be printed 16 pages per sheet. Distances will be scaled down by a factor of 4, creating the desired scale.
This is how model and map scales are, have always been, and will always be calculated. Anything else is a combination of wrong, ignorant, stupid and troll.
