I like the cartoon-like effect you often get when you don't use textures, but just use colored paper.
But of course this requires even more planning and thinking to break the subject down in suitable parts. And often the end result is not really a ready to print papercraft but involves some scratchbuilding for fixes meaning usually no templates. :(

Oh, and I think if you take the time and effort to plan and make something like this, you could have planned it so you won't have to use nails to prevent it from falling over. ;)
Still a very nice model of course, it's just a shame. But I can understand when he was finished and found out it fell over, he didn't want to start over to find a better pose... ;)
