Just finished my first ever ppaercraft after discovering this board for the first time last night... I don't usually look outside /b/ and /v/ much but I'm glad I did. in case your wondering>>70952for the templates.

But I didnt have any proper tools for doing this, you might notice its a bit rough in the right leg, it practically fell apart and im surprised it worked at all. MY scoring was done with a butter knife (i tried a few tings and I found the knife to be the best) and I couldnt find scissors so I used a rule and a sharp knife to cut the template. For glue I used a prit-stick (im a ukfag) and paper was crappy 80gsm i printed off in my office (best thing was the printer, made it look really good)

tl;dr: so /po/ can you recommend me some things to get if im ever in an art store anytime soon? Is the glue im using good enough (seemed to hold ok and allowed me to pry it apart if i did make a mistake) and whats the best thing for scoring?

scissors suck ass anyway, sharp knives are the way to go!

holy shit, I did the same exact thing after discovering this board last night too!

For glue, I'd recommend something you can apply with your fingers or a toothpick. (glue sticks won't cut it for some models with incredibly small parts).

For paper, the recommended is usually 100# (lb.) cardstock.

For cutting, an Xacto knife works best on a cutting mat.

For scoring, it differs. Some people use dull knives like you did, some people use rulers, but I myself use a mechanical pencil without any lead. I really don't see how any others could be an easier method after using a pencil.

Me too, oh shi-

well shit, i just put that template up to my friend who was a first time papercrafter, guess it came in handy to a lot of people

i recommend 110lb cardstock, white school glue, and an x-acto knife or the closest you can come to it

any paper or glue or cutting utensil is fine though, it all comes down to preference

also try a mechanical pencil with no load for scoring, i tried a butterknife but i couldn't get it to score deep enough

I had a pair of tweezers I was using to fold the small parts and hold it together while gluing, and used the other end of it to scrape of some glue from the stick. it worked but wasnt ideal.

>>71959lol my butterknife was scoring too deep... i accidentally cut off some flaps and parts of snakes legs while scoring, you can see one of his legs looks like shit

well shit, i should have read the posts more thoroughly, i posted almost exactly what>>71951said

>>71961

maybe because you were using printer paper and your knife wasn't completely dull, but i was pressing pretty hard with my butter knife on my cardstock, but the rounded edge of a butter knife doesn't give much precision. that's why i like the mechanical pencil much more

yep, i only used the butterknife since it was the only decently dull thing i had that i could hold comfortably. I only messed up one leg probably because I tried to do it faster than the last one. I might redo the whole leg tomorrow anyways.

That looks horrible on the legs.

And you>>71952

A few Engish /po/ recommend Bostik - the stuff in the yellow tube. Photo glue from card making suppliers is good because it doesn't make the paper wrinkled. Some /po/ use printer paper, others recommend cardstock (200 or 220g??). The actual model seems to dictate what to use.

ya its my first try. im not saying its good or nothing im just uploading it anyways while i ask for advice. heres my slowpoke attempt. the template was weird and had no instructions so i improvised with the body a bit, looks a bit odd but I cant figure out how it should be

only fold on the fold lines, everything else should just be a curve, and the ears should be partially cut out... I'll see if I can find a camera and take a picture of mine

Yeah, Bostik adhesive is amazing. I use the purple tubes though, the all purpose adhesive. Works perfectly, although never tried the yellow one.

So yeah, I recommend Bostik adhesive, plain cardstock, mechanical pencil with no lead for scoring, and a stanley knife works very well for cutting. But an art knife or something similar would work.

box made me newfag aswell.

I made the snake in a box after the pulse rifle, for a nice, simple papercraft. It was so much better than working on a big one. Fuchikoma was my first papercraft. Big mistake x]
