I don't know if any program other than 3ds max files can open .max files; if you google convert max to obj you might find something (obj is a format that does very well in many 3D apps and Pepakura Designer (that's the program you're most likely going to be using to unfold the 3D model).
BUT: it looks like a überly detailed model (done in max, and for 100 bucks, I'm pretty sure it is...) And that is BAAAAAAD to make it into a papercraft... I see three options: 1)you buy this one and use it as it is without any/not doing enough work in a 3D app to majorly simplify it and as a result make a crappy papercraft out of it... 2) you buy this one, and do ALL the work that is needed on the 3D model to simplify it (of course this can be done!! but it will take A LOT of time to do it good, and you really need to work towards making it into a paper model, which can take several tries of testbuilding, finding things to fix and so on) 3) you forget about this one, and find yourself a (free?) low poly Gundam that's more suited to make into papercraft (which will probably still need SOME work on the 3D model too. Options 2 or 3 have my vote, 3 more than 2, but I'm not you, so you decide. ;)
