ok, dunno where to put this but since it involves more cutting paper than paint, here goes: i'm looking for cool looking stencil templates, especially Darth Vador...

don't let me down /po/!!

Can someone explain how stencils work ?
Am i supposed to cut out the black parts or what ? I f i do that for the most complex ones i will lost inside details.
And what if i want them to be larger than a regular A4 paper ?
>> Anonymous
>>185354
Cut out the black parts yes. Easy but time-consuming. Other I dunno.
>> dai
>>185354

well, if it's a well-designed stencil, nothing important should fall off if you cut it right.

as for larger sizes, you have a few options- blow the picture up and print it as several pieces, then tape them back together into one big stencil, or you can go to your local office supply store or shipping place like UPS or Fed Ex, and have them print out a gigantic piece. You can get up to 24x36 at the one I go to.

MAKE SURE TO ASK FOR BLACK AND WHITE. color prints at that size cost near $40 on average, where b/w will run you only a few bucks.

My suggestion would be to play around with mediums first. I started out using cardstock for stencils, but that falls apart fast. But it was a good learning experience.

If you want stencils that last, go to whatever store closest to you that laminates large items (for me that's Fedex Kinkos) and ask for their scrap laminate. Print out the image, stick it to the laminate, and cut it out. You'll get a good, strong stencil that you really don't have to worry about. Transparencies also work well for this, but cost a ton.

If you're going for art value, a one-time use vinyl stencil is your best best, generally. Print it off, stick it to your piece, and cut out the parts you don't want. Masking tape over a large area also works like but means you have to draw the image. It is cheaper.

If stencilrevolution.com weren't still down, I'd direct you there. Just watch that periodically, because that was your best resource for stencilling.

for big stencils you dont need to go to kinkos

download posterazor

http://posterazor.sourceforge.net/

or rasterbator

http://homokaasu.org/rasterbator/

you can make stencils or any image like for wheatpasting as big as you want.

before you print make sure there are no enclosed areas of white ( islands ), print out on regular printer paper, get some spray adhesive and stick it to posterboard like what they use in school, i find that ghostline poster board is the best to use, its easy to cut and pretty durable

http://www.craftsetc.com/store/item.aspx?dep=10&cat=70&subcat=10&IsOnSale=0&IsFeatur
ed=0&IsNew=0&ItemId=48846

no need to get all fancy with it, even using regular printer paper alone, it will get more durable after being sprayed, the paint will thicken it up a bit.

after you stick it to the poster board with the spray adhesive, start cutting.

i use a #1 & #2 xacto knives - one for longer cuts, the other for detail work

then just take it out and spray it. try to use a non glossy spray paint, use a flat color - shows up better

if you want to make multi layer stencils, theres a good tutorial here:

With October almost here it's going to be pumpkin time. I saw a couple here that would be good for carving/scraping. Anyone have more that would be more Halloween themed?

There's the original logo. Sorry I don't have a higher resolution. I've been using the HL2 logo. You can find a decently sized one here:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v645/clearout/H2-LOGO.jpg

As for turning either into a stencil, you decide where the bridges go. Put some effort into it. You'll like it a lot more.

other than watch out for islands, bridges are a must have...no

Well, it does have a lot of islands and quite small. Right colors tho! Keep it up.

Try make this into a stencil.
>> Anonymous

Shit, I just noticed his tie area, I'll go clean that up later. Other than the islands is there anything else I can do to fix it up?
>> Anonymous

>>187252
Quick and Easy, my recommendation though would be to make this into a two layer stencil, that way you can keep your colour
