requesting a ship of the line of any type and any difficulty. I just want one on my desk seeing as I'm a fan of the Master and Commander books. :D

seconded... although the rigging would be... interesting to make out of paper...

I'll see if I can find any reference photos... I've got a few templates in progress now but adding another to the pile isn't such a bad idea.

Somewhere on the forums, someone made the rigging out of nylon cord hardened with glue, or somesuch.

I thought the transparency trick worked just fine, once I figured out to point the ink-side inward so it didn't rub off. Still, cord WOULD be cool.

Very cute, just what I was looking for. Anything complicated can be achieved through a large-scale kit, so this is perfect. Thanks.

I got the idea to use transparants from Worldwork's "Maiden of the High Seas", a big ship designed for tabletop gaming: http://worldworksgames.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=27&zenid=de174

There are special transparant sheets for use in printers, on those the ink won't smear (the surface on those usually feels a little rough). But they can be a bit expensive (some shops sell them like a dollar a piece...), so people get creative. ;o) Someone used an ordinary plastic sheet and taped scotch tape over it to prevent it from smearing. And another one used a special pen that doesn't smear to trace the lines on a transparant sheet.

The method of hardening thread using "super glue" can be found here: http://home.mindspring.com/~carapace/Railing%20Construction.htm
And this guy used it on my Going Merry: http://jleslie48.com/gmerry/cs.html
I never tried it myself, though since A: I know I would fail and B: I want everything on a paper model to be made from SHEETS of paper (or plastic, in this case).
