Luma Papercraft? Anonymous
I'm looking for a luma paper craft as a template for a plush luma.

Pic Related.
>> Anonymous
luma is? sorry i don't have a wii
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Sorry, there is no Luma paper craft yet. Mario Galaxy is too new; folks haven't figured out how to rip textures and objects from it yet, nor has someone hand-modeled one.
>> Anonymous
is luma the star?
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Yep, Lumas are the stars.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
The OP wanted to take a pattern and turn it into a plushie... I would think that a pair of stars stitched together and overfilled with batting would give the right shape, but I'm not a sewing wiz.

It would be pretty easy to make a starbit papercraft. Since it's basically a spikey ball.

very much want! Lumas, star bits, hell, I'll even take characters and enemies

I'm such an addict x.x
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
The problem remains that I don't think there's any way to rip the textures and objects from Wii games yet... everything would have to be hand modeled.

Snag some oooooold ones at http://gotorion.com/orion/singles3.php?t1=Nintendo%20Paper%20Models&f1=miscfunny/papercraft.txt to keep you busy while technology catches up.
>> Anonymous
>>106574
Yeah, but hand-modeling wouldn't be particularly hard to make a Luma. And I'm speaking in the sense that someone has experience with 3D modeling.
>> zel
>>106573
:P well thats why there arent any papercraft yet, all the people that knows of it are still playing the game!

i was modeling it, and its getting a bit too complex i think. probably too many poly for a straight forward papercraft lol.

ah well. (trying to get the textures through now) I'll post the model later since i wont have time tonight to make the pattern.

there might need some manual fixing of the texture after making hte pattern because of the seam, but should'nt be too difficult to do.

have fun /po/tatoes!

Moved around your cut lines, increased size to about 8 inches. Should be better for the plushie maker as well; seams are arranged a bit better for sewing.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
My apologies, there's still one bad flap on that; tweaking now. Give me another five minutes.
>> Anonymous
>>106625
Instead of posting a new rapidshit link, post a PDF of it.
>> cvbcvb
     File :-(, x)
any chance of making a white one, so we can print onto different coloured paper for different coloured lumas? i could always shop it, but it may be easier for you, depending on how you got that texture.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
NO PDF. PDF BAD. Really. PDF doesn't have the 3-d model to help you get it back together.

I spent an extra few minutes double checking and triple checking it, and added a 5 inch version with one less seam for the plushie maker. Then I gave it a name that folks will find it on /rs/ with.

When you have more than one rapidshit link, or in this case, three, people don't know which one to use. Just label the parts as "front, head, arms, legs, back" and that should be enough for this model.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Yeah, I know. It gets confusing. That's why I'm angry at myself for the one error; the thing is STILL buildable, but one flap is just slightly (by about 1 or 2 mm) deformed in it.

As for coloring it, since I'm not the one that did the hard work of preparing the model, I don't have the texture file. The .pdo is still unlocked so a new texture can be substituted if made available by the model's author.
>> Anonymous
>>106633
Well then, from now on when you upload to rapidshit, save the deletion link. Comes in handy when you overlook one tiny thing like that.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Will do in the future. For now, at least we have a workable Luma...

Color substitution done. In Pepakura Designer OR Viewer, just go to Texture Configuration and stick this in for a white Luma. Or recolor it and make it any color you want.

>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
>>106653
..... no. Just no. That pattern is unbuildable as-is; why would you recolor that one?

>>106654
You'll get no instructions. I'll see about making a .pdf, though.

The file is still unlocked, so the 5 inch one in the .zip can be made smaller still... by going to 4 inches, all the parts can fit on one page.
>> zel
so uh, anyone even try building it yet? lol
>> Anonymous
>>106674
It's on my "I'll get to it" list.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
I printed out the smallest white pattern, and am scotch-taping it together as a testbuild. Working fine so far.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Even hastily cut out, at 4 inches, the body goes together like clockwork. About to attempt to put together one arm, one leg, and the top. I'll be rebuilding it in yellow and possibly lineless if the limbs come out okay; it's cute already.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
     File :-(, x)
4 inches tall + quickly cut out + scotch tape = win?!
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
The arms and legs were the hardest part, so I'm trying a different cut pattern to incorporate them into body pieces. When I'm done testing, I'll repost.

here's a rar with all three pdos (I edited one to be a single sheet, easiest for /po/ but not sewing (sorry OP) also included textures, a psd for making your own, and pdfs of all lumas in>>106629

actually i modeled it so it would be somewhat suitable for sewing (kinda like how i made my loco roco papercraft into plushies.

of course, it was in theory, i didnt actually try to figure out the pattern making part, but I think To Sage did a pretty good job!

for anyone looking into making plush pattern, this tutorial on making an inflatable form will also help:

>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Right now, I'm putting a .pdo together that uses a different piece configuration entirely. When it's done, it'll be one sheet, and I'll put it in a .rar along with all the textures. Almost done now; I'm just making the tabs alternate so the pieces will lock firmly together.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX

will you upload the pdo when you are done? I want to try out the craft robo plugin finally with this, thanks to>>106697
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Okay. I'm going to save it two ways: optimized for one sheet and optimized for two sheets, in a .zip file, with all the textures. Give me 5 minutes or so.

Instead of putting ANOTHER copy on Rapidshare, here's an embedded .rar file.
>> cvbcvb
>>106718
thanks lol. i think that should just about cover it. ill make that thisafternoon.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Great. If this copy works out, someone can .pdf it in various colors for the folks on Macs, and put it up on Rapidshare with FINAL in the filename so folks know that's the one to download. It's buildable in my earlier format, but the pionts are clumsy.
>> zel
>>106718
>>106726
woohoo, thank you once again, i'll mine later and post it :)
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Considering some users will only be using Viewer and won't be able to turn off the lines, should I also save a lineless version of the .pdo files?
>> cvbcvb
>>106734
probably a noob question: i have designer. can i make the lines there, but barely visible? can i set the colour or the transparency of the lines from within pepakure designer?
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
You can do that in designer and viewer under Print And Paper Configuration... and if you go clear to fully transparent, the lines (and the tabs) vanish. At one click below, they're barely there.

If nobody builds the new Luma by the time I get back here tomorrow, I'll try making it; then we can worry about making sure it's in file formats everyone can enjoy. My little scotch-tape version is okay for now, but it deserves to be made right.

Good morning.
>>106794see>>106718

Will be building the revised template since nobody's posted pictures; I'm a bit swamped, so hopefully, I'll get it done in the next three hours.

>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Top billing to zel for actually getting the models and textures; I just made 'em workable. Thanks.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
I'm giving my full attention to constructing the Luma now. Some of the small edges would be tough to do in light card, but the results would be worth it. Still, regular printer paper is working out well. I'm about 40% done, should finish within the hour, hopefully.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Don't bother with that teeeeeny tiny tab at the very top of the head, just tuck it in. Model still looks fine without you stressing out about a tab that's all of 2mm wide on a two-sheet build. Mostly done now; got delayed, so it'll be done and photographed whenever.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
     File :-(, x)
Closing the last piece in is a pain... but the model is doable. I might just sit down with it one last time and try to see where I can make a cut to one piece to give more room to work. I hate to add one more seam, but it just might be needed.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
After messing around for over an hour, I've come up with changes to make the model easier to close at the end without adding too many extra cuts. I even went the extra mile and made an instruction sheet for the non-PDO versions. I just need a few more minutes to repackage everything and make .jpg versions of it in yellow and white.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
     File :-(, x)
GAH. Finally. What a royal pain. Change extension to .rar, open with WinRar.

Whatever could go wrong DID go wrong when I was trying to get the edits done and the files together.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
     File :-(, x)
Pattern edit tested. Now THAT is how a model should build; with the exception of that one tiny link up top, which can be ignored, every panel goes in right the first time, and you can close it without destroying it.
>> TSONTS !!u7H15vJR6mX
And now I can confidently upload it to Rapidshare.

http://rapidshare.com/files/74133993/mario_galaxy_luma_FINAL_VERSION.rar.html

And yes, I kept the killcode if we manage to improve on it.

*shortens username* It wasn't funny in the first place, anyway.

those looks really good! I just got home so im just starting to print it out now. i'll post the finished one if i can finish mine :P
>> TSONTS !!u7H15vJR6mX
They look good because you did a good job with the original model, zel. Give yourself some credit :)
>> zel
>>106953
aw thanks. the model was done w/ zbrush, very quick and easy to make a simple blob-like model and texture (thats why you see the the texture map being so badly done, its an automated map).

If theres anything else that is quick and simple and relevant to my interest i will not mind making the models for you /po/pos.

As for the actual making the lumas...
well. i tried the stupid pepakura viewer for craft robo and didnt freakin work and im too lazy to cut it the old fashion way. ah well. i guess i'll try again tomorrow.

So only thing I've really used my craft robo much for was cutting my other craft stuff, and making luma bumperstickers lol.
>> TSONTS !!u7H15vJR6mX
Well, as long as it can be unfolded into a working model, I'll be glad to keep messing with Pepakura Designer until it's easily buildable as I did with the Luma.

Hi, I just looked into papercraft, and I can't figure this out at all "/
I love the final product, I have all of the "As" Cut out But I can't figure it out
Help if you can and I really appreciate it
>> TSONTS !!u7H15vJR6mX
Use the .pdo file version instead of just the instructions. If you need the program, it's pepakura viewer.

With the program, turn on the "Check Corresponding Face" option, then click on any face of the pieces or the completed model to have the other get highlighted. Makes assembly a lot easier when you have a 3-d map.
