Dear /po/

A friend of mine once showed me a neat origami envelope. However, this was no ordinary envelope.

Once the final fold was completed, it was impossible to open the envelope without tearing the paper. Supposedly such envelopes were traditionally used for important documents to prevent tampering.

Does anyone know of such a thing?
>> Anonymous
did he use an actual envelope to start with?
>> Anonymous
HE USED SUPER GLUUUUUUUUUUUU
>> Anonymous
i think he used this thing god invented.. its called GGGLLLLUUUEEE!!!! or possibly a stapler..

Yeah, there's one in "Origami to Astonish and Amuse" by Jeremy Schaefer.

I have the actual physical book, and I would scan it if it weren't for the fact that I'm pretty sure someone already did. Go to /rs/ and check it out.
>> Anonymous
unfortunately the link in /rs/ is dead =(
>> Anonymous
if you'd be willing to scan it im sure theres quite a few people who want to see.

Very nice of you! I'd also like to have a look at the whole book. Maybe if someone has the file saved from rs on their HD could post it again. Dont want to bother you any further,

I have this book IRL.
I lent it to my girlfriend.
Amazing book, I love it.
It's called Practical Origami.

I'm still pretty confused, at step 9 it's just an ordinary.. 'bag'.
How am I supposed to envelopeize it..?
>> Anonymous
Steps missing pages? That's a nuisance

"hey bet you can't unfold this flap on my envelope"
"why would I and actually why would you"

Anon is also lost... someone webcam it and youtube

"it was impossible to open the envelope without tearing the paper"
This is no envelope, its just a paper bag..

Op here,

Thank you for the effort, but this isn't exactly what i remember. I wouldn't be surprised if it used the same technique, but like i said you could actually put things inside of it.

its near the back of that book, origami to astonish and amuse, it is truly impossible to unfold. its fucking hard to fold though at the same time lol

Got I hate how horribly textated some of these origami books are; I can never fucking figure it out.
>> Anonymous
>>161490

just as i said at>>161470, lots of fun to hand to people and say "your challenge is to unfold this without tearing it" and walk away, then turn back and say "you can have as much time as you need"

WinRAR!

Used this on 3 people today

Before the step 11, is it supposed to look like this? And where does the "flap A" go to? Dont want to do the consolidation version! Sorry if it's easy for some, but this is practically my first try at origami.
>> Flap A radnomness
>>161765
ive done a few origami that require this kind of step, its hard to explain.
Yes that is how it is to look.

Now from there, as long as you know what Flap A is, i think i can explain.
Take and unfold to the previous step, then using something hard, crease the fold very well, this ensures that the paper folds where needed.
When creased, refold. Take Flap A and you will notice that it is a small triangle and there is another triangle on the left side of it, what you are going to do is fold Flap A underneath the other triangle starting with the point and curving it so that it will rest snuggly out of site and under the other triangle. the next step is to do the same thing on the new triangle and thus render the envelope "locked".

note that it is possible to unfold if you have either slim fingers or some type of curved tool to grab the corner and menuver it back out. So if you know someone that has folded this before it might not be wise to place a large bet.

p.s. cardstock = horrible to fold this model out of, but looks good when able to complete correctly..
Edit: before noon tomorrow i should be getting my camera back so i will build this model and either Youtube it or make it into a animooted .GIF

Is this the flap A? I'm at step 10 now.

Thanks alot for help. I think I got it right this time.
The last fold was pretty stiff, maybe it would've been easier with less thick paper. It came a bit rough but still I had fun.

Yes, once you do the valley fold in #10, thats the one you need to fold inside. If I understood it correclty, ofc...

I followed your instructions, and what I have now looks kind of how it should be, but did I do it right?
2 pix to explain what i did

then this

>>161858
yes, that is correct. There was a delay on my camera so i was not able to video this yet. I apologize.
>> Anonymous
>>161858

no that is WRONG.

you need to fold flap A inside with a mountain fold while the whole thing is folded in half.>>161858it won't end up there... one sec let me open photoshop...

this is where it should be before the last and final lock, then you push it, as it says, even deeper inside the model.

this is the last spot, and since it is so far in at this point, its impossible to unfold it without tearing it, its infact really hard to GET it there without tearing it, so be careful. however even if u tear it partially they won't be able to open it. its a lot of fun lol
>> Anonymous
Can someone just make a video with a webcam of how to do this? I'm still lost....
>> radnomness
>>162412
oh, dang. i need to look a little harder i guess.

>>162423
ill be uploading the video to rapidshit or something else if you prefer. youtube isn't taking it.
>> radnomness
>>162423
ok, video is going to have to be in 10 different .rar's
sorry about huge file, if my laptop didnt crash everytime i run video editing software i would cut a lot of the un-needed time.

i really hope that it helps you all, seeing as it starts from scratch. And the ending is for motivation to practice, nothing personal.
thanks, Radnomess
>> Anonymous
you should just do the video of the last few steps, i think people can handle the rest of it
>> radnomness
>>162474
yeah, this video is not working. im just going to do another.
would be much easier if you could just unfold instead of building another new one.
>> radnomness

im extremely sorry about this, my internet connection is going insane. 500+kbps to 3kbps to 0.02kbps.
I'm calling my internet provider tomorrow morning as soon as i get out of an appointment.
again, im terribly sorry.
