I'm a total nub ;P I'm trying my first papercraft here *snake in a box* and it says to "use the gray lines as guides for SCORING the folds"...now I see the lines, but...what is scoring?

>< thanks in advance

its when you cut partway into the papr so that white shows when U bend it.
try bossing instead.

so like...I cut little niches into either side of the fold?

Watch the instructional video. Please, if possible, score without cutting the paper using a metal ruler, a pen with no ink, or a mechanical pencil with no lead.

Please do yourself a favor and look up the basics of how to do papercraft instead of asking us...

Scoring. The act of running something across a fold line BEFORE folding to make sure the fold is straight.

nah, just use a narrow, hard-tipped object (dried out pen for instance) and trace the fold lines. put good pressure down

it will make it easier to fold later. you don't actually want to cut when scoring unless you are using Really think paper

quit whining, why waste your time?

some of us don't mind at all

thanks for the help everyone

Actually, there are about 0 threads right now about the basics. So long as there are none of them currently here, I think asking is okay. Not like a few weeks ago when there were about 5 different threads in two days.

Get them. NOW.

I personally use a metal ruler and fold the edges with that. That way if the scoring is in the wrong place you can recover quite easily.

OP Here

Update: I just spent hours on snake in a box and it turned out horrendous. White showing everywhere...I can't glue all the dang flabs, their much too small ><

It doesn't even stand up :P he tilts off to the side...anyways, that's kind of...well...that's really discouraging >< It seems like I'd have to be inside of the damn thing to get all the flabs to work right

Anyways, thanks for the help guys...I guess I'll give it another shot.

Just cause I feel like being anal right now, they're called tabs.
>> Extremely bored !OWteLghTV.
When papercrafting, accuracy builds with experience. When you have a lot of white showing, make sure that you cut evenly and folded the tabs properly. If you have trouble reaching all the flaps... you're probably gluing them in the wrong order; try to figure out how not to "glue yourself into a corner".

The tutorial I linked to before shows one other main technique; not gluing the TABS, but gluing the EDGES THE TABS JOIN TO. This helps a ton when trying to join a very small tab to an edge, and the excess glue stays hidden.

Keep at it, you'll get it next time.

Do a "dry fold" first, before glueing yourself into that corner.
