I'm pretty new to Pepakura and noticed it can import dxf files too. So I downloaded eMachineShop (which is free and exports to dxf) to play around with basic 3D models.

I created a simple Al-cylinder (2"x1") with a 0.5" hole going through, saved it as dxf and opened it in Pepakura Designer. It asks me if I want to flip faces, assign colors and invert it. I've tried every possible combination, but every time I just end up with a blank page.

Is there anything I missed? The tutorials about importing are pretty rare; also it doesn't seem to be too complex (4 clicks), so the lack of results baffles me.

I don't know about eMachineShop, but I've used Google SketchUp very successfully. Maybe you should give it a go - it's also free. The pro version isn't free, but you don't really need the pro extras, anyway.

silly question, but have you pressed unfold? it will be blank until you *unfold* it once it has loaded.

Crap, I just read up some more on eMachineShop and it seems to export no 3D data to dxf, but only useless stuff like comments, views and scales. This is totally useless.

However, it seems to be possible to steal the data: http://www.geocities.com/ems2obj/
