So, step one is to take your time, and don't worry about the people who want it. All that matters is if you want it, and if you decide to give up, that's fine too because it's your project.
Step two if you don't give up, is to release when it's ready, and not a moment sooner, whether it be the 3D model or the papercraft.
I made the mistake of having a model up "within the week" when it wasn't ready, and I hadn't built it yet. I eventually did build it, and decided there were too many problems with it, and I didn't release it until a few weeks ago, almost a year after I first showed it on /po/. I felt really bad about it, because it felt like I was "hogging" it to myself. But I eventually did release it, and now all is good.
So don't rush into anything you're unsure of just because of /po/.
