Origami ITT A.r. !!1J3JRobqN2a
Title says it all. After all, /po/ could use more origami these days. Pic of Dratinis related.

BTW, I think I should add more origami to the /po/ Wiki. I'm mainly wanting to add traditional stuff so as not to make anyone angry/mess with copyright laws. Any suggestions on what models to add? Have an Apsaras III pic in the meantime.
>> GoblinGuy
I made a swan, but I screwed up big time and it had wings the size of a jet. Figured I'd give up while I was (slightly) ahead.

Just keep trying, origami is definitely something you have to practice :>

Eh, I don't have anything against papercraft, it's just that origami is more of my thing. Have a Dragonair.

Bump. I think I've gotten at least a decent Articuno in the works. Unfortunately, I lack a camera ATM. Have Mudkips instead.

Joseph Wu fails. And that dragon is a modular unit, IIRC.

Here's an Ancient Dragon for you. I'm gonna try to fold it from Kite Paper or maybe Kraft soon, once I finally have some spare time...

>>157145

Or you could add all of the stuff on Origami.com?

Anyway, /po/ certainly needs more Origami. Papercraft can be fun, but Origami is way cooler.

This horse by David Brill is one of my fav horses.
Haven't fold it yet and I think wet folding is needed to make it look like the one in the pic.

I like Wu myself. Then again, I don't have the patience or the paper for most Kamiya models.
>>157934
Yes, that model is meant to be wetfolded. I've folded it a couple times, though not wetfolded and it didn't look all that great due to that.
>> Anonymous
So, what's everyone's favourite designer? Mine is Kamiya, followed by Brian Chan. Some of Lang's newer work is cool aswell, allthough I hate using strangely proportioned sheets of paper ( like in the Complete Book of Origami ).

I'm partial to LaFoss, Kasahara, Montrol, and Brill myself. I personally tend to like clever intermediate models more than super-complex when it comes to folding :D

Kamiya, Lang, Komatsu and Katsuhisa Yamada.

Pic is Katsuhisa Yamada's books, with all his cute models.. Been looking for those for a long time.
So please deliver anon..

here are reviews for 2 of the books:

Well, it's my own design and I haven't made diagrams yet. Dunno when I will be able to either :/

For me it's the three K's: Kamiya, Komatsu, and Kawahata.

What's with the fucking BEETLES? japanese sure are crazy motherfuckers, how on earth can BUGS be a trend anywhere in the world?

So I know John Montroll personally.
I'll probably be seeing him this weekend at the Origami USA Convention in New York.
If there's anything anyone wants me to ask him something or something, I could try to do that.

Oh, not all insect hobbyists are Japanese. There's a small but growing community of roach hobbyists right over here, for example. Don't believe me, look here http://www.roachforum.com
>>158398
I'd like you to ask him how easy (or difficult) it is to get a book published. I'm kind of tempted to try and make a book with my original Pokemon models, but I don't know if there'd be enough interest.
>>158482
>>158481
It's not that bad! I haven't even attempted the Ancient Dragon yet!
>> Anonymous
>>158483
I'll ask. It seems like the biggest problem would be that they're all licensed characters, so I don't know how you'd get by that.

any patterns for this?

If you included a bunch of other models and some traditional ones to flesh it out, I'm sure you could easily have 4-5 Pokemon models in there and nobody would notice or care (amongst a bunch of traditional folds and some tutorials on folds and bases, you could easily just stick a photo of one of the more obviously "pokemon" ones on the front so people realise the book includes them).

That was a badly written sentence but you get the idea. Also, are there diagrams for the Rattata yet? I totally want to make it :> (I'm the guy who folded the semi-cancerous Mews... they're a bit better now).

By the way, I have about 1250 pages in total of Origami books, plus a book by an extremely pretensious cunt with nice photos of paper sculpture, etc. Anyone interested in any of it? "Origami Animals and Fishes", "Educational Origami" and some yellow book with simple models are the short ones, and the bigger ones are:

"Origami Paper Projects to Delight and Amaze" - David Petty (has nice pleated cactus in pot)

"A Handbook of Origami" - Rick Beech (all sorts, and a nice Peacock)

"Papercrafts and Origami" - no author, pretty shit in terms of Origami

"Origami, the Complete Guide to the Art of Paperfolding" - Rick Beech, god tier gimmick folds like talking frogs, pecking crows etc

You guys probably have some of them, but maybe not

Always glad of books to add to the (virtual) library. Be careful - the copyright police seem very keen to kill origami links.

Looking pretty good, really. What kind of paper did you use?

By the way guys, The Complete Book of Origami by Robert Lang is shit. Too many strangely proportioned rectangles and traingles, instead of squares. Waste of money tbfh.

A bunch of really nice two-toned, simple models (like nuns/santa/winking crab), a few types of boat, a nice duck, a nice autumn leaf, a pine cone in a similar vein to the cactus, a load of boxes and some quite nice modular origami - it also has a 3D heart (the lovey kind, not the ventricles/atria kind).

I agree 100%
Origami needs more representation in /pO/

Personally, I'm more into modular origami (which is still origami mind you), but I also always fold my traditional flowers, birds, and containers.
>> Anonymous
ORIGAMIS SUCK actually.

/PO should drop the O, the stuff is extremely complicated and hard to share, and quite frankly, it looks like shit when done, specially those organic ones...yeez

Nothing like a good papercraft

which came first: Origami or papercraft

If you're into making your little Gundam Model Kits, then I suppose you'd also be into printing up similar models and fussing with your tape, glue and scissors.

Hey Look! I never called you out for still playing with paper and paste! I'll stick with models that stay together with elegant folds of the medium, without the assistance of paste and tape.

Because you can't wrap your mind around a few simple folds, it all looks like crap to you.

Don't be jealous~

Gee, it sure it newfag summer around here...

Also, that post gave me flashbacks of the bara vs. bishie wars that plagued /y/ up until about a year ago. And that's nothing to be proud of.

Have some Rattatas.

>>158935

Damnit I fucking love those Rattatas so much
>> Anonymous
>>158690

I actually don't remember all that well. It was a thin paper made from mulberry leaves or some bullshit. It's really strong but isn't as stiff as some other papers, which leads to the funky bending that appears in the completed dragon. Maybe I'll wet the creases and see if that'll help.

why must you taunt me with your Rattatas yet again A.r.? I fucking love Rattatas, and want to fold that so bad.
