Some printers handle it, some do not. Try a piece and hope you don't break yours.
Also, paper is STRONGER THAN YOU THINK. Models CAN be made out of ordinary copy paper and still come out well. And, if you decide it's not thick enough, nothing's stopping you from gluing paper to cardstock (or a second layer of paper) to add thickness. Some papercrafts actually ask you to glue some parts to another sheet to give those particular parts more weight.
