I'm a rather simple fellow when it comes to origami, and use whatever's on hand (usually college ruled notebook paper which you will gradually come to know, love, and hate because of how damn thick it is compared to "real origami paper").
At any rate, notebooks are cheap, and origami paper whacko-expensive at the places around here (like thirty dollars for a set of fifteen squares of origami paper at the Wal-mart here...), so I do my regular, practice, and free-time folding with notebook paper, and only use origami paper for knicknack (I spell that right?) pseudo-gifts for my friends.
