New Pongoo Canti thread Anonymous
The old one died, let's start another one
>> dai
     File :-(, x)
the lifesize version is coming along slowly. I'm remodeling it from the ground up to be a bit more detailed at a large size.

I'm ALSO creating an easy-to-change template of the materials that you can group and apply so that you can change skins on the fly, as per request of the ones who just want to customize the skin for fun.

note- this newer model IS my own creation, with the except for one thing- I loved the way the hands were modeled, so I pretty much just upgraded them.

pongoo gets MAJOR credit however for a good deal of reference, since I still don't have the toy, nor do I have the anime on my computer to get good shots and references.

Bones system will be implemented some time soon for sake of posing.

Official page soon coming to paperworks.wikidot.com, I'll update with a link when I finish it.

I've been looking through the .pdo files and I'm having trouble figuring out where some of the grey sections go. I assume they are internal supports, but i can't tell exactly where the come together. any help providable? thanks

There's a little button in pepakura that is called something like "Check faces". it's towards the right of the top menu buttons, and it looks like a cube with a red side and a question mark.

Turn that on, then click the piece of the layout you want to figure out. This will highlight the piece on the model, as well as rotate it so you have an easier time finding it.

I'm going to write a tutorial on that one eventually, since it's (in my opinion) better than using someone's hand-written instructions.

Not to say you shouldn't... maybe try using them side by side for better help ;D

the problem is that the model is partialy exploded, so the internal structures are orbiting the body, they aren't where they should end up, and i have know way of knowing where they go

Pongoo is not a troll. he's one of the most generous designers on this board.
since it looks like it's no longer up on /rs/, here you go.

The original .pdo is all fail, the model is not completable.

dai had said he(or she sorry) was cleaning up the model and going to rerelease it.

this never happened.

therefore we were trolled.

look in the gurren lagann thread. I;ve built the head and part of the body so far.

>> Mankip
>>190566
It's taking dai a little bit of time because he's working on at least 4 other projects just as ambitious as this, last I heard.
Why not quit bitching and do it yourself if you want it so bad?
>> dai
>>190566

still in the works, but lagann has taken priority over this (due to the fact that it was more interesting to me). I'm not planning on producing a .pdo of the original file, but I'm working on a larger 3d model for the guys who wanted to do a lifesize version. (same for the gurren lagann model)

impatience gets you nothing in the long run; it just stresses you out.

If anything this constant bitching is making me want to continue the project LESS, since no one seems to realize or care that I'm doing all of this in between my currently over-scheduled job and more-than-minimal social life.

if you guys want the current 3d data (provided you even HAVE 3ds max design 2009 64x), I'd gladly post it up, but it's nowhere near ready to be sorted into a pdo.

I'll post up progress about this project as I get to it. IT HAS NOT BEEN DROPPED.

...troll.

This is just fucking retarded and A huge waste of time. Who the hell wants to build life sized versions. Be realistic, where are you going to put A 7' model of Gurren Lagann and what ever size Canti is. In my opinion there is probably you and 2 other people who wants A "lifesized" version.
>> dai
people tend to use the lifesize models of stuff for mannequins at anime conventions, or even at local stores. I've worked with two groups at my local convention to build lifesize models of a few things, ranging from giant weapons to a custom anime girl that was like a mascot for them. She sat on the table, it was quite neat to build.

One other guy had me build him a giant ffxi sephiroth (severely low poly) to drag around as a prop for his cosplay as cloud. Cost a pretty penny since the polygons were so big, that I had to print it using an architectural plotter so there were no seams.
>> dai
oh, didn't see you there mankip. I'm sure you've seen Morlock's stand, right?

oh, forgot- the local store is a comic book place, they wanted a simple 2d cutout of this one superhero that the guy who owns the shop designed, but he wanted "3d elements" to the cutout. Still took some papercraft-based ideals (and that arch plotter again), but it came out nicely.
>> dai
last note- canti = 7', lagann = 8' 2".

I have a friend who goes to my convention who is already looking forward to building the canti and using him for their artist-alley stand. She sells hand-made hats, bags, and other random clothing items. I bet he'll be holding/wearing a few things. I need to make a nice re-inforcement system to put inside him to keep the weight from crushing his shins.

you'll just have to go on my word, then, I don't have any pictures on my computer.

It's the cheapest alternative to having a professional company make a fiberglass statue for you, I'll tell you that, and the dealers and artist-alley people who go to this particular convention aren't the most... well-funded people.

end of discussion, I don't care what you think anymore. All I can say is for someone calling us trolls for taking our time to do something cool, you're one fucking massive troll yourself.

All you have done is create A useless unwanted wiki page that no one even uses trying to turn people away from /po/. Not to mention those sad fucking joint tutorials that you "created" your not doing anything that people haven't already been doing for years. Wake up, stop living in your dream world and stop trying to impress everybody.

the fact that you have done a part of the model doesn't mean that it has been 100% completed, which is what i said, completing all of it would require more work.

fag.

>>190604

i don't have the skill, and i am truthfully not complaining, i just felt that we were basically trolled.

though dai i do like you work, the 3d max images posted in the beginning of this thread impressed the fuck out of me. That's why I'm so anxious, you work interests me, and i hope it just isn't forgotten.
>> dai
I love you>>190626

all you've accomplished with this is to show that people actually care about what I'm doing... and if you ARE the guy who tried discrediting the joints tutorial stuff before, congrats on failing to do so for a second time...

...or even 3rd... You remind me of the one who ranted about the paperworks as well. Boy, you're persistent. At least you keep to your ideals, I like that.

>> dai
>>190647

thanks, glad to hear you are anxious and not just angry. Still working on it, and even so, the large-size version MIGHT be doable at a small size, just to keep interest for any of you who don't feel like lifesize is worth the ink.

Instead of bitching about it, let's see you clean up Pongoo's model and make it into a .pdo.

>>190798

I don't know if it NEEDS to be the 64 bit version, but I know it has to be either 3ds max design 2009 or plain 3ds max 2009. they're the same program, the only difference in programming is the fact that design has a lighting analysis tool for architects.

I'll get the file up in a bit.

...and Xent, I don't think the guy you quoted mentioned lagann... I'll try and balance out the projects, though.

bump- still can't figure out what the hell happened to my cable. It's a bit hard to find a spare double-usb cable for these older external hard drives, since they need the second one for the power.

You'll have your model, just wait. Sorry I wasn't around to read>>191125yesterday... er, tuesday. I was at college all day yesterday for an event so I didn't think about this.

...I'd buy a new cable, but I'm not sure where to get a double-USB cable, my old POS seagate requires one for data and one for power, all routed into a phone-charger sized USB port.

Looks awesome, Dai you added alot of cool details, well done!

the obj opens just fine in modo, i'm sure it works even better in 3ds

>> 4ng31 !!f6UHP2wLT8+
I grabbed the .obj, through it into c4d...deleted all the unnecessary pieces...got the chest down to the basic pattern...and pulled it into Pep.

As is...with no modification...it's pretty ace. I use pep as a base to build off of for costumes (Halo, Gears, Daft Punk, etc...) and the chest pattern is fucking ace as a base piece...will post it up if anyone wants to see what I mean...

nice! i hope someone takes on the head as well, since with work it'll take me forever to sort it out
>> dai
I'm still working at refining the model... I haven't addressed the fact that some polygons are too big to be on a single page, so once I've got everything right I'm going to try and add subdivisions to large pieces.

The head needs the most work as far as continued editing, I need to make the whole mess into one 'skin' model, so there's no intersections and pieces within pieces.

Well i do know that it seems like 110 lb card stock doesn't hold up too well over time.
In some parts the card stock seems to warp a little from moisture in the air. I'm wondering if some heavier material can be used.
>> Anonymous
>>193597
this is for a sized up one btw, not small sized
>> 4ng31 !!f6UHP2wLT8+
>>193597

For costume building purposes...I print the pattern out on regular paper without tabs, and glue that to chip board...and use that to build with. Eliminates the need for supports and braces...and also makes the fiberglass process quicker, as it's a thicker material.
