someone halp me!
i already unfolded it, so you could probably construct it
but it is not very good
probably much wasted paper, and poor design

I think what you did was:
1) Rip the model from the game.
2) Opened it in Pepakura Designer and clicked unfold.

Pepakura auto-unfolds are buildable, but only by autistic people.
Game models (or basically any 3D model that was not specifically made for papercraft) won't make good papercrafts. This is not something you can fix in Pepakura Designer: you need to edit/rebuild the 3D model in a 3D app like Metasequoia or Sketchup (or any other 3D app of choice). How? By imagining how you are going to want to unfold it and what parts you need for that instead of the parts you ripped. You may think that's the part Pepakura does for you, but it only does it after you did it yourself in the 3D making stage first. Not many people seem to get that.
After you have done that, you can let Pepakura auto-unfold it and it will already look much better. But it always needs more work. Right click in the development area for extra options like move, rotate, join edges, change flaps etc.

i was trying to fix it in pepakura, that might have been a handicap i guess

Every game designer has his own method of compressing and storing their game data, so there's not one magic method that works for everything.
For N64 ripping, Google rip n64 models, for ripping from a particular game Google rip <insert game name here> models, also Google OGLE and 3D Ripper DX.
We can't tell you in a few lines of text what you need to just learn by doing. Some /po/eple say these kind of more 3D modeling than anything else related posts will make /po/ get more papercarfts, but I'm not sure I want the papercrafts they generally produce if any...

Yeah. Most of the time 3D models you rip aren't suited for papercraft, because the designers of the model let body parts flow freely into each other to make the model more simple. Or they will make the model terribly complex and therefore extremely hard to put into a buildable form.

In some cases though, ripping a 3D model is a good idea for papercraft, but the ratio of bad to good would probably be about 80:20.
