Anyone have good suggestions for making papercrafts more "permanent" ? Like, a good hardening compound that won't make the paper sag/cave in?

For a sealer, I use Testor's Dull Cote, Krylon 1311 Matte Finish, or low-odour spray fixative. Apply several light coats of this to the model, letting it penetrate well and dry thoroughly.

The sealer will actually add strength to the model, and will leave the surface in a condition much like plastic.

What's the problem with using 200 g/m2 cardstock paper?

Rebar and cement.

When I'm using paper to build up prop or costume parts, or for just a model I want to be super tough, I use superglue... You can get a super-thin formula that soaks into the paper extremely well, & doesn't leave much surface 'crud' at all, like thicker glues do... If I'm doing a piece that's getting textured, then I'll brush on a good coat of gap-filling superglue, then spritz it with zipkicker... You really want to do this outside, as the superglue fumes from that amount can really do a number on you...

I primarliy use 110# cardstock for all my models, & a coating of glue makes it compareable to styrene plastic sheet...

which type of glue would that happen to be? Do not want crud on top of paper model, or a model that becomes see through, wouldn't white glue deform the paper? (i use 110 cardstock as well)

The super-thin superglue I use is the local hobbyshop 'store brand'... It comes from BSI in Atascadero, CA USA. It's the slightly cheaper version of zap-a-gap...

I use plain ol' printer paper and Elmer's glue and do not get any deformed paper. It is true that you have to have a pretty delicate touch to pull it off, but hey, go for whatever you want to go for. I never worry about using plain paper, I always have sharp objects in reach so that nobody feels like acting like a dumbfuck in my room....

There was discussion a few months back of possibly using expandable insulating foam and filling the hollow model with it.

Yeah, and how it always expands more than you expect it to and tears apart your model...
Pro tip: don't!!

For a version that lasts why not print out a papercraft and make it a few times then once you've gotten the hang of it print out the sheet again and cut it out of sheets of plastic and glue it voila! plasticraft certainly last a lot longer and on the likes of PyramidHead or Snake or even the Cloud model it could look pretty sweet . . .

You mean lamination? It's a big pain in the butt if you don't have a laminating machine, plus you'll need to change your adhesive/glue so that it'll bond the laminated side and the paper side (would be easier to use super glue if you're laminating both sides.)
