Never tried it, but seems like a lot of extra work; cutting it to the right shape/size, while you can just smear some glue without problems on any shape/size flap. if you're having problems with your glue making a mess/not being sticky enough, try another glue (and if it's a mess, you also may have to improve your technigue), not a whole other medium: glue IS the best and preferred method of bonding things together when doing papercraft. Don't use glue sticks (not good enough) or hot glue (too good: you're trying to glue PAPER together, not some vinyl to some metal or whatever, and you'll only glue your fingers together). Also, best protip ever: don't use too much glue!! Use only so much that when you press the parts together, the parts glue together almost instantly (almost, because sometimes you need to adjust it a little).
