Proportionate the the cost of a disk using jewel cases is very wasteful. 2) Paper cases take a fraction of the space and material of a jewel case (and the material is easier to dispose of). 3) You can fold a paper CD case in seconds and almost every computer desk has some waste paper. This is handy when you simply don't have a jewel case. 4) You need a marker to write on a jewel case, or paper inside the jewel case (which is often too glossy to write on with a pencil anyway). You can write with anything on paper.
And you have got to be kidding if you're saying jewel cases are durable.
