Goblin - Released! GoblinGuy
Are you ready?

Well then let's get right down to it. It's been almost a year since I completed my Goblin, short 25 days. And now, you guys get to have it. I present to you, the release of the Goblin.

Now, all of those problems that I've been mentioning over the past year, red lines, texture problems, are still there. On the model at least. The pack in the download link contains "fixed sheets" where I've cleaned up the textures, and have added tabs where necessary. I've also included a "notes" text document that I advise you to read before building.

However, the model is still as 100% buildable as it was a year ago. I have fixed two other things, and those are the hands. They are much much easier to build than when I made them and there's only one spot where the tabs overlap, but it's not by much so this can easily be worked around.

I'd love to see someone complete this model, and I might have a surprise should I see a completed picture besides mine. ;)

Enjoy!

Heheh. When I decided to become a namefag, I was thinking of what name I should go by. In previous posts on /po/ I always referred to myself as "that guy who made the goblin" so I went with GoblinGuy

i swear i'm gong to try to build in the next weeks, as a FFXI fan i feel obliged to do it...

anyhow other thrn bune do you plan to make other mob/npc/pc from ffxi? like goblin tinkerer or some tarutaru with black mage af or similar...

Oh yeah. I can't tell you what they are because then I'll be making unkept promises.

Though I can say I've got two or three in the unfolding process and two that I've actually started working on. Also I'd love to do a Taru, but there are way too many problems for me to tackle. Maybe when I'm more experienced.

Perhaps you could share your methods? I'd be more than willing to do the work to put together some other models if I had any idea how to get an FFXI model into something pepakura-workable.

I use an FFXI model viewer that has a "Set to MQO" feature. I don't know which one it is because there's supposedly more than one. But yeah, you'll notice with most FFXI models things tend to go through each other (like most armor goes through legs and arms) and how ears go through the heads of PCs instead of connecting directly to the heads.

We can tell you what each button does for the software you use. But we don't wanna do that: this is a /po/ 4Chan board, not a Blender/Wings3D/Metasequoia/and so on forum.

The other part, how to make something in a papercraft-smart way, isn't something you can explain in one post here. There are so many things in so many different situations and that sometimes you solve this way, but the same problem can be solved differently another time.

How do I make an epic papercraft is not something you can be told here, in the end every single piece of advice on that subject comes down to the same thing: use logic.
The first few times, you'll think you made it logical, but others will "disagree". ;) Often they have more experience and will be right. ;) You just have to learn by doing and failing a few times, so don't make the papercraft you want most as your first. best tip I can give you. ;)

i don't think he was asking "how do i make papers" so much as "how do i get models"

I think he WAS asking for how do I make papers. ;)

Actually I was just asking for that bit about MQO form and whatnot.
