Hoy there. I'm a 3D artist looking for someone who has a bit of knowledge with Pepakura and turning 3D models into proper papercraft models.

Obviously it isn't too hard to make something in pepakura, but making it GOOD is a different story. It requires some knowledge of where to cut the model in order to get as few seems as possible at getting them at the least noticable places.

I sort of doubt I'll be able to find someone with any sort of skills on 4chan (yeah, it sort of has that reputation), but making a "group" of sorts that could make high quality anime papercraft models is still a bit of a dream to me. Attached is an image of one of my anime models.

If you got any sort of interest, post here with some way of contacting you. I don't really feel like posting any sort of personal info here myself.

Good idea. But I don't think anyone with any sense would post personal information on 4chan.

How about here:

http://www.zealot.com/index.php?page=cardmodels.net

or here

http://groups.google.com/group/Papermodels

You know, some place where respectable people hang out, and the rest of us have the graciousness to practice hypocrisy.

That's true. Any place with a more anime-related discussion on papercraft models rather than papercraft in general?
I'm not very interested in modelling houses and spaceships, and I assume that there's only a small portion of people who are actually interested in anime-related papercraft. I'll definately check out those links as well though, thanks.

Your work is wonderful, but papercraft made from 3D models requires the polygon count to be low, or it's not going to translate well at all.

In all honesty, it only takes one night to learn Pepakura, it's not a difficult program. Knowing where to cut the parts just takes papercrafting experience.

I am well aware of the polycount thing, and in fact I'm a much larger fan of low-poly 3D than highpoly, which probably explains my fascination with papercrafts, as they are basically low poly 3D models "in real life".

As for Pepakura, it does take one night, but as you say, knowing where to put the cuts takes experience, and that's something I don't have.
I'm not saying I couldn't do this all on my own, of course, it's just a whole lot more work and it's a bit de-moralizing working alone on something in such an annonymous fashion.
Perhaps if I had some sort of blog or website where I could take requests it'd be more fun. It'd be even more fun if I had unlimited free time, but I'm a student and I take my studies seriously.

Guess this turned more into some sort of rant, I'm sorry.

Nah, don't worry about it. /po/ is very helpful, and if you make the models and post them here, someone is bound to unfold them for you, if you don't mind that. It's actually quite common for that to happen here. You can start up a blog on blogspot or something and post your link here and say "now taking requests!" and work from there.

Yeah, the only way you're gonna get a high-polygon papercraft model is to make one life-size.

The best thing to do for Pepakura is to place all the cuts yourself, instead of the auto-cut thing. You'll also want to split all the body parts into seperate sections to be finished seperately, then put together (arms, legs, body, head, etc.)

Of course, I never had to cut with Pepakura (haven't even tried to make a 3D model), so you can draw your own conclusions.

I think one of the biggest things that are stopping me is the fact that I have to make the papercraft in pepakura, print it out, see if it works, change the design, print it out again, etc. etc. until it works perfectly.
I wouldn't want to post a papercraft that doesn't work, y'know.

The image is of a simple lowpoly model I made to test out pepakura. I've made a design and printed it out, but I've yet to actually finish the paper model because of a lack of time.

Anyone feel like "beta-testing" papercraft models? Hah.

It's called test-folding, and if I were home right now, with the glorys of my awesome LASERJET PRINTER MARK EIGHTY SEVEN TRILLION I'd do it. however, I'm here in California (again!) until Tuesday.

By the way, has anyone seen Jen in a while?

If you need someone to help test out models, I can definitely help out. I'm proficient enough with pepakura that I can help you out in making buildable models.

I'll see if I can put together a blog of some sorts tomorrow, it's getting a bit late for me here (Norway).

I'll either update this thread if it still exists or just create a new one. I'm sure you guys'll find it.

Don't worry, /po/ is slow, it'll take a few days of no replies for it to be bumped off.

If you put up that model in that picture, you can expect it built same-day. Relevant to my interests.
>> Wanijobo
Oh god, that Horo looks delicious.
I'd be interested in doing some unfolding for you, especially if you're modeling things like this.
Shoot me an E-mail, please.

*squees* horo!

how i learn is by trial and error... but then again i dont put out many patterns anyway. most of them i dont even build myself.

... ok back to lurking.

Alright, so I tried setting up a blog but now I just keep getting a "Failed to Connect" error. I made a new email for those of you wanting to get in contact with me before I get the blog up and running, it's right in the email field.
>> Dontsudontsu
New name, same guy.

I got the blog up and running at http://dontsucrafts.blogspot.com/

The Horo papercraft is uploaded for those of you who wish to try it out, and I'll also be taking requests.

Wonderful. :)

I've been requesting this for almost 2 years, but I personally would like a Nyoro~n. Someone was working on one when I first requested it, but that was a loooong time ago, and nothing has come of it. Don't have to make one, just keep it in mind should you ever be bored one day.
>> Dontsudontsu
>>175761
Nyoro~n, eh. Shouldn't be hard at all, if the Horo model turns out to work well, I could even use that as a base for it.

I'll start working on it ASAP :)

I'd be interested in unfolding models for you.
