Planar Polygons Anonymous
Hi,

I'm new to 3D modeling and i need help in getting rid of those creases that ruin my low polygons meshes. I would REALLY like to have perfectly planar polygons. Any advice?

I don't know, maybe learning a little engineering could make you less FAIL.

Thanks.

Ok now, something more constructive?

Honestly I would recommend A simpler program if your new to modeling. Sketchup is A great starter software, and lends itself well to papermodeling.

if this is 3ds max you could try 'optimise' if you can find it.. that seems to smooth things out and reduce poly count, though this means that quality is lost with each time you use it

make planar tool in 3ds max

It's simple really, use quads, not triangles.

actually if you can turn on edge mode (press Key 4) and take a screenshot. it could be that its not really an edge. tho that doesnt help you any either.

if you are using 3d max, right click on the selected object and convert it to a 3d mesh. Then when you are in edge mode you can select the edge that you would like to delete, and in the modify tab click "remove".

Or you could just fucking mesh-smooth it. Fuck.

what's with all these pseudo-helful posts all of a sudden? i mean, fair enough you are helping out, but you dont have to be a dick about it. he is clearly trying to make something and is doing the best he can. it's good people are asking this, it means more people making papercrafts.

i am in the same boat as OP, and have made a thread asking for help with 3d modelling. tutorials are hard to find for specific things and we are trying our best to do as much as we can on our own.

you wouldnt be like that if this turned out to be 'that papercraft' that you had been looking for for ages but never found, even though you are clearly competent enough to make your own model but couldnt be arsed doing it. he's making the effort.

i like this forum, it's the perfect example of why 4chan =/= /b/ so stop treating it like it is.

I had the same problem with my Crocomire model, but I worked around it with the 'iron' tool. This was with C4D, though, I dunno about 3DSMAX or whatever.
Hope you get around fixing it!

Even if you remove the edges it makes no difference. the polygon is still computed in the same way, only vertices make a difference. I don't know about Max, but there are tools in other programs that will attempt to quadrangulate your mesh. The crease is just a product of the shading, it doesn't necessarily mean that they are not planar. if you switched to smooth shading you would probably not see those creases anymore.

It's best to avoid modeling with triangles all together, unless you need them for a form. The exception is with hard surface and low poly models, use triangles all you can to save polys.

thats why I use hexa super 5 or metaseqoia, the only choice that you have is to rebuild all manually
