I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I was wondering what would be the best way to make my own Plague Doctor mask. Papier maché perhaps? Or just some really stiff card?

Anyone have some suggestions?

PS: a Plague Doctor was a physician during the Black Plague.

i doubt it was that detailed. What i would do is probably just tie a colored cone to my face, and make ridges on it to show there's flowers/herbs inside.

I don't think accuracy is going to make that much difference at a costume party, but you have a point.

I went to Venice at the start of the summer, and while I was there I learnt how to make masks the authentic way. Let me give a brief explanation:

Step 1: Make a positive out of oil based clay. Whatever shape you want your mask to be.
Step 2: Make a plaster negative of the clay shape. Leave to dry.
Step 3: Give the inside of the plaster negative a good coating of Vaseline. Papier mache the inside of the plaster negative, making sure that you give it several coats of paper. Leave to dry.
Step 4: Remove the paper mask. Cut off any excess paper around the edges.
Step 5: Paint.
