I was looking through my papercraft templates when I found this mesh of Rena's cleaver. I downloaded it a while ago (don't remember where), but I never turned it into papercraft because, well, I didn't know how to. Any pointers on how I would be getting this into a paper-craftable form? I also uploaded it if any of you wish to try experimenting with it.

Yeah, I'm not sure if I lost the textures or something, but I don't have them.
>> Chrono-fox
We already have Rena's hachet, but another one would be interesting.
>> Anonymous
it's a bamboo hatchet

Really? Rapidsearch is down, so could I get a link to a site?
>> Chrono-fox

http://homepage3.nifty.com/lesqua/craft/craft.htm
It's about halfway down, and don't worry. It wasn't on rapidshare.

That's neat. I suppose it's good enough, I'm probably going to use better textures and scale it up.
>> zel
>>73119
lol wow, that mess is uhm. messed up. Cuz its from sketchup right?

wayyy to high poly to be of any good use anyway...
its over a thousand polys, so pepakura wont load it in.

lemme go find my higurashi book and see if i can find me a good pic and i'll pose a better version of her hatchet on here.
>> Anonymous
>>73172
I dunno where it came from. I have almost no experience in 3-d.
>> Anonymous
>>73172
pepakura loads it just fine
>> zel
>>73177
hmmm... maybe cuz im loading the 3ds instead of obj? thats when i usually have the error
>> Anonymous
>>73181
i'm using a 3ds file also. loads fine, but it's a mess.
>> Anonymous
>>73182
yeah, it's just a mess.
>> Anonymous
>>73181
does your version of pepakura handle .kmz files?
>> Anonymous
BACK (Alt + Left Arrow) Do you use it?
LOL
>> Anonymous
>>73189
what?
>> zel

>>73185
no.

>>73182
I get the error:
"Too many surfaces (# of surface : 1621). IT may take very long time to create development. In the paper craft model, the number of surfaces should be less than 500."

BTW using version 1.1c
@.@ im procrastinating commissions... so i'll model this lol. also found a nice picture of rika's ceremonial plow thingie, looks pretty simple (other than the obvious lack of tassels and bells).
>> Anonymous
>>73215
then you need to get the new version of pepakura. it can handle more polygons and adds support for .kmz files(google earth files)
>> zel
... well fuck.
my computer just died (no idea why, it just wont boot up after i restarted)

so this is currently on hold ... hopefully the hard drives are ok T_T
>> Anonymous
>>73215
You're going to model it? That's awesome, because (this might sound a bit stupid and picky) the other papercraft of Rena's hatchet has the blade in a convex curve rather than concave.
>> Anonymous
>>73229
wait a minute. how are you posting?
>> zel
well i WAS modeling it. >_>; considering i cant even get it to run windows now.. argh.
>> Anonymous
>>73234
I had that problem once. you have to either reinstall or repair windows.

Is it a Dell by any chance?
>> Anonymous
>>73234
does the windows is loading type screen then go black and stay that way, or does it say something like no bootable madia/drives.
>> zel
not its a scratch built.>>73237

I read online theres been lots of problem with the graphics card i had, so maybe its that.
I'd much rather replace my graphics card than my hard drive... at least i'll still have all the data of my other crap.

>>73238
it doesnt even reach the windows logo screen. it freezes on the screen where you can press a key to enter setup (graphics card screen?), and no i cant get into setup.
>> Anonymous
>>73263
well shit
>> zel
>>73264
shit indeed.

btw i mean "NO its a scratch built" not, "not"... gah bed time -_-

o_o; strangely it was my USB keyboard that caused it to stop loading the OS. it now works woohoo, no data loss.

Looks pretty good.

apologies for my poor craftsmanship. That and the pattern aint all that great, the tabs could be better, this will probably work a lot better if it was "life size" but meh, i've procrastinated enough, i gotta go back to work @_@;
>> Chrono-fox
>>73547
Looks great! Is it going to be full size?
>> Chrono-fox
>>73583
Disregard that, I suck cocks.
It looks full size, or just a tiny bit undersized. Oh well, I can't wait to build it!
>> zel

have fun. i wouldnt recommend trying to make it any smaller than the fullpage size, its a paint to attach the hilt to the blade part.
>> zel
>>73585
haha yea. hang on lemme get a ruler.. lets see...
its almost 8 inches long.
>> zel
>>73233
i forget to mention i have a laptop.

If you don't mind, do you have a .pdo, a larger blank template, or something that you can share? I'd really like to scale it up and work on the textures a bit more to make a more life-sized and a bit more realistic-looking.
>> Anonymous
>>73785
Seconded. Just a huge blank template would be fine.
>> zel
>>73785
>>73871
sure. i'll post an embedded jpeg tomorrow when i get back on my computer.

BTW, just came back from a j-pop event and got a higurashi DVD as a prize lol, woohoo i get to hear butchered dubbings!

heres a embedded jpg with the obj, texture, pdo file, and the pattern.

good luck with using that texture with the UVs lol. i painted it from zbrush so its quite illegible if you open it up in photoshop.
