Okay, I am a COMPLETE and UTTER Papercraft noob. I trying this Charmander as my second one. How do I do the little triangles where one end goes up and another goes down? I circled them in the gif.
Should I put a small cut in them or something?

I think you have the right idea if I understand you: you cut the thick black lines (score and fold the dotted ones), then the tabs are pushed underneath the other side (I hope the lines I drew explain it better) to make the "rounded" shape of the head.

Okay, since this issue is done, here's another noob question. What kind of paper should I use?

for this and other simple models, I've found cardstock (this varies in weight, find the one that's to your liking) to be best, and for the complex ones, regular paper is fine.

Whatever kind you're comfortable with. Try it out, if you use regular paper you'll probably find it's a bit too thin really to get the best results, but there are so many thicknesses. Most people use anywhere between 120-200 gsm (grams per square meter) or 90-110 lbs in the US. Most people seem totake the middle 160 gsm and just stick with that.
