Clean builds Anonymous
Aside from using felt-tip markers or colored pencils for coloring the edges to make them not appear white when built, does /po/ have any other tips on making their builds clean enough to look like it isn't made of paper?

Also, how can I protect my models from turning dirty? I had a stark white Starcraft Battlecruiser clearcoated once, but it got gray and dusty in a couple of months.

And yeah, any of you guys happen to have a model of Chokipeta's Megaman bust?

Thanks /po/

Take your time to build it and do a good job. Most people go: holy shit that's made from paper?!?! and not: Meh, it's not plastic so it sucks...
Maybe you can get a display case with a glass door so your papercrafts are not out in the open, but also just clean them once in a while. I know that for some clear coatings, the end result when you touch it actually feels a little rough, and the dust actually seems to hook on, actually making it harder to clean off with just a gentle stroke with a dust cleaner...

Maybe I should refrain from using such sprays.

I think they only make things worse.

Stark white will obviously show dust. I've had paper models sitting around for seven years that still look fine.

Well, as far as along flaps, I know there's an option in pepakura called "Color flap by neighboring faces", which makes the flap colored with it's corresponding piece instead of being solid white. (shown in picture)

as far as CUT edges (as I assume is what you're asking about), I really just keep a few highlighters and sharpies around and just lightly go around the edge. Thick-headed markers/highlighters seem to be easier to work with than an line art pen with a tiny little felt tip.

I know it's not the answer you wanted, but it works.

also, I use Krylon Seal-Coat, you can find it amongst the spraypaint section at your local store. It's meant for stuff like this, it stiffens the paper and keeps it from fading and getting dirty.

We do actually have the first page of the Megaman Bust, but it's not enough to complete the model. Need the second page.

well, if I'm printing from a jpg or other image, I just color the neighboring tabs. but if WORST comes to worst...

Shhhh.... my 11 year old son (the youngest of 4) has a HUGE collection of crayola crayons and colored pens. I can almost always find something pretty close. I just have a test sheet nearby to draw on, to see how it looks out.
