Papercraft decor Anonymous
Sup, /po/?
Are there any designs for room decorations out there?

I just moved into a new apartment, and I had to sell a lot of my old stuff.

After I got done unpacking and setting everything up, I noticed that the place was surprisingly bare with only a few computers, a lamp, and a few dozen wires.

I could lurk moar around garage sales, but I'm convinced that the only things that could make this room stand out are a stone elephant, a cigar store indian, or tons of paper.

Well, what are your interests? Also, how large would you like for the crafts to be, and do you have previous experience with either papercraft or origami?

Here's a labrador from canon's website to get you started.

I'm thinking of something fairly large, like maybe the size of a computer tower. The only thing related to papercraft that I've done were some paper boxes when I was little.
I'd prefer designs with plenty of flat surfaces, so I could save space while still making the place look better. Perhaps some paper flowers and desk cruft, too.

Well, about the only papercrafts I can think of that are large are also not very easy. There's a dragon, and 3 3ft. tall figurines. Unit-00, Unit-01 and a Gundam for the 3ft. tall mechas, and there's a dragon from someone in Hong Kong that covers around 22 or so pages.

When I got back into papercraft a year ago, I did the first project twice. For a practice run, I did a papercraft in black and white on regular printer paper. Then after that, I did a final version on heavy duty printer paper and printed in color. It worked very well for me.

http://cp.c-ij.com/english/3D-papercraft/ has a bunch of papercraft that are well designed and would be a good place to start. I've found that usually when a papercraft is 3 pages or larger, that it becomes large enough to at least be a few inches tall.

You can build a cardboard shelf to put all of your papercrafts on to make the space less barren.

Ive got one of these on the wall next to my computer.

I just remembered about this papercraft another 4chan user made.

http://www.megaupload.com/cn/?d=6D422NT0

It's the entire level 1-1 from Super Mario Bros. I remember someone saying that he forgot to put in the characters, so if a resolved version hasn't been uploaded, then we can change that if you want them.

this is a dragon that wraps around a pole or something. looks pretty big, but i havent tryed it yet so it might be hard, i also have about 7 masks for a mask collection if your intrested

A wall of painted masks would certainly add to the atmosphere of the place. The only thing I have up now is a painting of a house I brought from my old place.

That's the dragon that's about 3 feet tall when completed. It is a white dragon that wraps around a green pole with 4 red legs. There are 4 pegs that go into the pole that the feet rest upon. The most difficult part is the head, which is 3 pages. Try the head first. If you can't figure out the head or get too frustrated with it, then don't do the rest of this papercraft, at least not now. If you do figure it out, then go ahead and build the pole next. After that, build the rest of the dragon, preferably in the following order: neck, arms, body, legs, and tail. Put the scales on if you want to, but I've always left them off.

If you want more information or help on it, then just ask. There were at least 3 people who were trying to put this together around Christmas, and there have been one or two people putting it together since then who have come asking for help. I don't know where my pictures of them are right now, and my boyfriend has the completed one I made that's one half size of this model that I kept. I made a full size one that I messed up on and threw away.

OP : If you're Asia-inclined, you can also make the maneki neko (good luck cats) from the Canon site. They look very good, and are very big.

Also, maybe you'd like some fancy bookshelves ? http://www.instructables.com/id/EOFOYM0RBUEXCFH30A/?ALLSTEPS

Would that shelf really be able to hold much weight?
>> Jen
>>55172

Yeah, that would hold quite a bit as long as you make sure that the book you use with the L Bracket is a hardcover book. The person who is making these is also putting softcover books on top for the coverup, and not hardcover, so there's not too much weight upon the hardcover and L bracket.

It reminds me of some of the crazy stuff the art majors I've been around do from time to time with the extensive knowledge they accumulate.

M., are you the one who said that their first papercraft was the maneki neko months ago, or was it someone else?
>> M.
>>55179
Maneki neko was one of my first. I had this big "Canon papercraft" period, closely followed by the T-rex.

OP here. The masks are working out great around the entrance.

I'm interested. I still have a lot of empty space here.

Also, I'm not sure if it counts as papercraft, but I just realized that I'll probably have to put some weight in some of the larger decorations, so I'm open to any suggestions for paper mache decorations.

Can't help about the paper maché stuff. Other suggestions : stenciling the walls ?

Does anyone have the dog papercraft that was posted on here many moons ago~ i believe they just ripped the head of his model~ that'd be awesome scaled up and printed on glossy paper
>> Jen
If you need to put a little weight in some of the papercrafts you're making, then I have a suggestion. I've used the metal sinkers for fishing before. They work pretty well and are very cheap. I think I got the ones I currently have for $0.05 US apiece. I forget the weight for them. Just look for fishing sinkers that look like they can fit inside the bottom of most papercrafts, and that are probably heavy enough to weigh down the papercraft.
