Albatross
So I had dinner at Chili's last night, which I don't do often. And I ordered ribs, which I almost never do. They were delicious. As I was enjoying them, it suddenly occurred to me that Chili's Baby Back Ribs are proof of the non-existence of a benevolent God.
I love animals; and not just as food. There is something in the core of who I am that feels a great empathy for them. Yet somewhere a friendly, peaceful beast who, as far as I know, never harmed anyone in its life, had that life brutally taken from it solely because deep in its body surrounded by pain receptors was a tasty treat waiting to be cut out, seared and marinated for my pleasure. Not only that, but eating said treat likely added to my genetically high cholesterol and probably future heart disease. But it was so, so good.
What kind of God would do that?
