Sonic 2 q_Werty
Hey /po/.

I've got a grand project in mind. The plan is inspired by attached pic. I made that one and i wanted to do more.

So i thought of making a bunch of tiles, all following a system, so you can print any number of wanted pieces and assemble your own sonic level. I used Sonic 2 as a template, because it's less monotome and has several different pieces such as loops (yes, i'm gonna make them.)

Following is three pics of the most basic tile. The 1x1 grass tile. A standalone, one-end and midsection. Please tell me what you think of everything, because this will be the template for making slopes, towers, loops, etc.

Bah, i posted the standalone in a different post. Oh well, you get the point.

Thanks a lot. But i wanna know what you all think. Is the size okay? Should i do the tabs differently? Any tiles/features you wanna see?

I like the idea a lot. I'd focus on the main parts now: just the straight pieces, and the loopings. "Caves" etc. and bouncepads, spikes etc, I would save for later. Just focus on say one straight path of a couple of pieces, with a looping in it, and see how it goes.
As for the templates themselves: the tabs can be much bigger. And I'd try to keep the bottom attached to the rest of the template (like a basic unfolded dice).

How big are you making say one square? 5cm by 5cm? 10 by 10? (haven't printed one yet)

I haven't thought much about the size yet, but it has been resized to double size because i like the pixel look. MSpaint won't let me print this in one page, but if i pull it into word and center it, it just about fits one a4 page per 1x1 cube. Because it's pixel doubled, you could shrink it to exacly 50% and get 4 blocks per page.

My printouts so far are 5,5 cm tall (214 pixels) and about 6,5 cm long and deep. (dunno that one in px.)

I will do the following: A straight slope _/¯ a curved slope (can't do that in ascii, but if you have played sonic 2 you know what i mean. It's kind of a quarterpipe, only shallower.) a 1x1 tile, a 1x2 tile, a 1x1 "tower tile" for building up, a bridge tile and a 0.2x1 water tile and a 1x1 waterfall tile.

I'm glad that my two days of searching google for papercraft while 4chan was down helped someone else find something they would love to be productive about.

Also, how could we forget about a papercraft that was released on a Sonic birthday that just happened to be on a Friday?

I really want to work on this papercraft myself, but my boyfriend wanted me to work on the nekomimi papercraft i got off of the pepakura website, so I'm about halfway through the transfer of the data from PC to Mac to proper size. Ugh.

Other than that, bump.

Straight slope done. Haven't tried constructing it yet though. I know that the low end is open, but there isn't space for the end, and you can use this attached to something (like the endpiece 1x1) to make and end for it. I will try to assemble it today and take a pic for you.

Here they both are. Assembled.

Divided it in two parts to make it printable.

Second part. Have fun. Next will be curved slope i think.

I had this exact same idea after making the Sega Green Hill and most certainly endorse your efforts to do this. Good show on the pieces so far!

Nice work so far! Quite simple papercrafts of course, but those are often the best ones! ;o) Detailed papercrafts look awesome, but most of the time I want to make something in like one afternoon, and not a whole week.
Still one remark/question though (I was the one 'bitching' about the size earlier>>28179). They look big, and I've found that when I make a papercraft that is big, it often "sags", especially when you handle it of course, you have to be carefull not to squash the sides. Even when you use 200 g/m^2 cardstock, allthough it all depends on the size of course. Do these "sag"? Then I'd make them a little smaller. Maybe you can even fit>>28383and>>28384on one page that way. It's really a matter of trying out what size works best and of course everybody can print the parts at the size/scale they want. You could add re-inforcements on the inside, but that would only add more parts and more complexity...
Keep up the good work, can't wait 'till you do a (papercraft Sonic) looping!

need to make the giant loop, a coin at least, big animal holding tank w/ release button on top, and robotnik in one of his dumpy 3-hit concoctions.

Oh fuck... here we go Paper Sonic and Hedgehog!
>> Paper Sonic chars? Hibiscus Kazeneko
Also, does anybody have or know where to find models of Sonic chars other than Sonic and Shadow?

Anyone have papercraft of other terrain?

I play Flames of War occassionally, getting terrain is expensive. With heavy-grade paper and some patience I was hoping that /po/ could help me out with this.

Original stuff is great. But a few simple trees, a house, etc would be awesome as well.

Know this is a bit off topic for the thread, but its the closest one here and I have no papercraft to share.

This has been done before with mario, and with zelda. I THINK with sonic but I'm not a huge fan so I wouldn't recognize. All posted here, months ago.
