A couple of months ago (october 13th 2007 to be precise, or at least that's what the "Created:" properties of this image say lol) the Pokéballs were made too, a little different, but basically with the same (imho flawed) starting point: When you want to use Pepakura, you need a 3D model, but the 3D model should not be made with the same idea as a normal 3D model, you should keep in mind that you need to build it in real life later on, so model it so that that will be easy. Meaning: analyse the shape, and break it down into simple shapes: Main shapes are two hald domes and a bunch of cylinders. So make 2 half domes and a bunch of cylinders, not one hollow shell: "valley fold-90 degree angles" especially like these are very hard to build properly. So it's much easier to make a half dome, glue a circle to the bottom, make a cylinder, glue it to the bottom of the half dome, and make another half dome and glue it to the cylinder again. Then add some small cylinders to the front as the button. Much easier than trying to make an empty shell. An extra plus is that it will hold the shape much better than an empty shell. I hope everybody that wants to design their own models (you should try it!) keeps in mind that you need to think a little differently when you're 3D modelling for papercrafts than you normally would, so /po/ can have many great models that are fun to build; keep 'em coming!
