I still have the sketchup file for this too if you need it.

Many Thanks!

No, this is still the one with the open middle, I think he wants the closed one

so it is, I forgot I added in the piece but didn't repost at that site...my bad. Well since I need to reupload this do you want any other mods done, I was thinking of adding in the handle again. I doubt I will do the hoses cause in my opinion you get a better result with black tubing.
>> Fixed Portal gun Anonymous
woah, no,no, you don't have too do anything like that...but thanks, that's really nice of you to offer! Let me just thank you for making this model in the first place! You have saved my halloween!

here's the link for the new files, It's unfolded pretty small(I prefer smaller models they take up less space) so obviously you will have to upscale and rearrange the parts if you plan on using as part of a costume ^_^

Wasn't there some guy who made a portal gun from the unfinished file? Did he finish that? Do we have pics?

I've done it, I don't really see what the problem with the file is.

I'm resining mine tomorrow, so there should be pics soon

What size are you resizing to? I want a lifesize model, but I don't know proportions and stuff.

>>188192
Resining, as in fibreglass resin. But as for size - I made mine and it was HUGE, had to make it again. My final size in pepakura was somewhere around 23cm (whatever pepakura defines that to be measuring, I don't know), and it is absolutely perfect for size (note- this is in relation to my body compared to how Chell's looks, and I'm a girl. a guy could get away with a bigger one). I can upload a pdf if it if you want. This is the third time I've built it up, so all the pieces are really well laid out and easy to put together.

I just finished mine and it is absolutely perfect. I sized the width at 550 mm in Pepakura and it turned out awesome. I don't know how to resin it though...suggestions?
>> Anonymous
>>188245
1. Get resin
2. Apply resin
3. ??????
4. Profit!

Ahh, as it trins out, I's gots the dyslixery. Awe-smum.

And if the PDF is of the full color version with the handle in the back, post that staff. I'm more for the build-and-display rather than the build-and-POSE aspect. But I wouldn't mind taking it out for a ren or two...

Which reminds me, someone needs to get started on a Chell papercraft. If I knew how to pose models so they don't look like a T, I'd try. Which also reminds me, I was gonna start a thread on which 3D modelling progrum was better.

Uhh, where was I?

So what did you guys build it out of?

Did you use the original unfinished pdo?
If so how did you get some of those parts to fit properly on paper?

yep

This was indeed made from the original unfinished .pdo back in may. Paper was A4, dunno if that answers your question or not. Prop for a cosplay. Guy in pic is the guy who made it. Oversized I know, but he really couldn't be arsed to make it again the correct size.

Well, I was wondering about some of those pieces that take up 2 entire pages (the long middle piece) or more.

Printed on 2 pages and stuck together.

Has anyone else finished one? I'd like to see how they turn out.
Also,
>>188273
was this paper mache or resin, or what? How did you finish it off?

I'm working on one soon. Printing it out sometime this week, then going to assemble it.
Could someone explain the process it might take to use the fiberglass and resin technique to me?

The whole thing is resined, with the big black tube at the back fibreglassed on the inside as well to make it extra strong. Let it dry and then spraypainted the whole thing. Ideally I should have then given it a coat of varnish, but time was against me and the only one I had made the paint run :(

I used Fibreglass Matting and Fibreglass resin, the only place I could find any was at a boat shop, but then I live in the UK, so...
If you just want a piece to be resined then basically you mix up the resin and additive which makes it set (don't mix up too much because it solidifies very quickly and becomes unusable) and then slaver your pieces in the resin, making sure that the paper/card is fully soaked in the stuff. Let it dry. Easy.

If you want to use the fibreglass matting (which makes it unbelievably strong) then repeat the process above but after soaking the paper/card in resin you then apply strips of the matting to the inside of the model (not the outside because it won't give a smooth texture and you do NOT want to sand this) and slaver more resin on to make sure that the matting is soaked as well. Let it dry. I would then suggest sanding the outside of the model to give it a nice smooth texture and make it look like one continuous object. I would also recommend while building it that you don't crease any lines that aren't supposed to look like sharp edges. Looks much nicer that way.

Good luck! I hope to see pics soon! If I may ask, what size are you planning to build it at? I realise that mine was way too big, so have you determined a better scale, or what? I based mine off the size of the handle, which fitted my hand perfectly. Too bad I didn't have time to do a full test build.

First run of resining done. Haven't decided how to proceed from here. I was concerned about the strength and planned on filling the hollow parts with polyurethane foam. I even cut holes through the solid pieces so that I could inject the foam to the bottom, but now that the resin has had a while to harden, I'm not sure if it's necessary. I have spent the last three days trying to decide what to do with it.

Here's the little foam tunnel I dug out. Seems a waste not to make use of it.

Another view. I know, I haven't done the tube in the middle yet. I haven't decided whether to do it with paper and paint it black, or use some translucent plastic.

Is this by chance the version with the handle? If it is, could you post some type of MediaFire link to it?
>> Anonymous
Did you use regular fiberglass resin??? Did you put on the matte or just resin??? Did it end up real hard???
>> Anonymous
>>192034
Uh, yes, regular fibreglass resin. I'm going to do some fibreglass on the inside of the cavity that sits under the back shell, but otherwise, it's really strong
.>>191988
I'll get right on that. After I go to bed.

If anyone has a paintball gun, they should put it in the middle of the resined gun, loaded with alternating blue and orange paintballs. Run around and shoot little portals everywhere.... while recording it of course...
