Origami Paper Anonymous
I'm going to order some "real" Origami paper. I've been printing patterns which is fine for the simpler stuff but the printer paper is too fibrous and weak when I print on both sides to withstand a lot of folding.

What should I be looking for? I know I want some double sided for certain things and maybe a pack that includes some foils, is there any particular brand or weight I need to be looking at?

It depends on what you will be folding.

Washi/Chiyogami paper is kind of thick and doesn't hold creases too well, so its good for traditional and simple models.

Regular origami paper that is colored on one side and white on the other is good for about anything, simple to complex.

Color duo-sided origami paper is a little thick, so its only good for simple to high intermediate models.

Japanese Foil(American foil is a tad too thick)is good for complex to super-complex models.

There is also tissue-foil, but you have to make it by spray gluing tissue paper to both sides of some aluminum foil. A few origami websites have instructions on making it, but here is a start: http://www.origamitips.com/articles.php?action=show&id=8

Thanks for the responses, very helpful.

Those are "new" kawasaki roses, make sure to use the revision 2.3 diagrams like these:

Other versions of the diagram (which are extremely common) up to at least 2.1 have an error at step 24 that makes it unfinishable.

washi is often so thin its translucent, and usually super-strong, but will often require sizing (basically painting it with a pva glue or wallpaper paste solution) to make it useful for origami, but i would imagine it would be really nice for folding at that point (if you can get hold of it).

muji sells not-bad 15cm kami pack assortments for around 1GBP.. its okay for first tries of not-too-hard models.

Wow, thank you so much. I tried to fold a Kawasaki rose, and I got completely stuck at that step.

Thank you so much.

I agree with this guy; I use Fold'ems. I'm sure there's better paper, but they are a) cheap, b) widely available (got mine at Wal-Mart), and c) work well for almost anything. At my store at least, they sell a sort of sampler pack that includes 3 different sizes and quite a bit of sheets for about $4.

What department of Wal-Mart? Scoured the crafts and toys section last time and found no origami paper at all.
