Use printer paper and elmer's glue. Start on simple models. From there you can use intuition.

PVA is your best bet.
I use Elmer's and Hollander's bookbinding PVA for more important projects.

Use woodenglue. It's cheap and does a perfect job! Plus, if you make mistakes you can wipe it off without any traces before it dries.
