its a work in progress. cant you see the texturing isnt even finished?
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
Although texturing is going much better than on your Ray model (this time the textures are nice and bright, like a papercraft model should be I think; it's not always necessary to make it look exactly like the ingame model, I think it's much more important to just make it look good for the 3D build) I think it may even be nice to (also?) release a version without real textures, but just solid colors (like in OP screenshot). Looks great enough!
The model itself looks really nice, great job on modelling!
But still one thing I think you should look into: the red band on the hat. There's a very small rim between the red band and the top of the hat, and although I don't know which size you're gonna release it (please no ten+pager this may make an awesome two-pager, small and easy to do) but the rim might be a bit small then to handle (cut out and fold)...
Nice model!
>> Anonymous
I <3 you chamoo232
>> Anonymous
>>42199I think it may even be nice to (also?) release a version without real textures, but just solid colors (like in OP screenshot
Second that, looks nice and cartoony! Since the model itself is cartoony too.
Right now, there'll be a lot of people going "NOOOOOooooooo!!!! Plx texture it so that we may mistake it for a real-life person or I'll kill myself!!!" so to prevent them killing themselves (and since you're doing it anyway) just continue texturing.
But it should be easy enough to reset the textures in Pepakura and make two versions? (reload texture for hat for example as a 1x1 pixel yellow dot bmp, that's all, 1x1 pixel blue dot for coat and so on)
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
>>42199
I may have a solution for the "small rim" problem: instead of making the red band just a small ringshape piece of paper, make it into a whole cylinder (with a white bottom and top). Then give the top of the hat a bottom piece (with a orange ring on the outside, and a white center the same size as the top of the red band cylinder). Then you can just glue the white top of the red band cylinder to the white part of the bottom of the hat, still have a small orange/yellow rim, and it will be much easier to build.
(Crappy MS Paintjob are crossections, bottom one is what I mean, dunno if it helps, though ;)

Sketchup is a breeze to use.
Nad highly advised for anyone willing to try any 3d modeling, the free version is perfect as is.

yeah I think it wouldnt take much time to make a clean template with only color and add only the important details such asthe belt and the green lines on the pants and the red line on the gloves and such. it would make a more cartoonish version. ill keep that in mind once I have the template

I didnt used screenshots for texturing on this model unlike ray. this time I extracted the real vivi textures, resized them 4x bigger to cut out the pixels and I will rework them even a bit more on the final template. this way I will get the exact same colors and feeling of the real one witch will help making it look closer to the real one even if my3d model is not exactly 100% accurate.

>> chamoo232
>>42331
its a very good start. doing round stuff like characters is not easy to beging with. just one thing for now... select the horn and right click and choose reverse faces. the blue mean the textures are inside right now
>> Anonymous
>>42336
Ok, I will fix that, by the way, did you know if this program have some sort of mirror option so I could copy one thing and and mirror it?
>> chamoo232
yeah. select the thig you need to copy. copy and paste. then in edit > entities > flip along. you choose the color of the are. red is usualy left right. green is front back and blue is up down
>> Anonymous
>>42313
In Pepakura, you can check how tall the model will be: in the scale development box you either input a scale, or a size in cm. The size in cm is the height of the built model. I think 15 cm is more than enough to build even the small parts like the hands.
On some of your early releases, the template lay-outs could be a little more efficient, on Ray it was much better already. The less pages (yet still big enough to build) the better obviously. I know, it's a matter of finding the balance between getting as many parts as you can on one page and placing them next to each other in a logical way, two things that sometimes clash. You'll find a way.
As for the simple, solid textures: I don't really know if it's really necessary to make accents like the green stripes on the pants, and the red bow... If you ask me, it isn't.
The exact way he looks in the OP picture, with those exact colors and no further accents, he looks great!
The version with the green stripes etc is just one version from one game. In KH he looks different already. You'll be simplifying the textures, I think you shouldn't simplify them, then do extra work again to make it look like the original again... The simplified version will be based on Vivi from FF9, just with other/simpler clothing, it needn't be the exact clothing from FF9... Keep it as simple as possible, like I said: just replace the "real" textures with 1x1 pixels colored bitmaps in Pepakura, the program will do the rest.
>> Anonymous
>>42344
Only thing I would do is on the head: all bodyparts and hat can just be one plain color, no extra accents (that's the power of making it simplified: no accents). But on the head, I would make the eyes textures on the black head (just two yellow circles obviously) instead of two seperate circles you need to cut out and glue on. The eyes themselves may look a lit better if you used the "textured eyes" instead of plain white ones, but I would copy/paste them on a plain black background. Plain yellow eyes wouldn't have enough "life" in them I think, a problem you don't have with the other bodyparts. ;)
>> chamoo232
so far I made the hat and the face. lookg great. wasnt too hard. I expect him to be 6 inch tall. id take a pic but I dont have my camera right now

You can write a tutorial about how sketchup works (http://sketchup.google.com/gsu5vtvideos.html) and how Pepakura works (http://www.tamasoft.co.jp/pepakura-en/productinfo/product_index.html) or how to rip homeworld models to use in Pepakura (http://www.ericksmodels.com/paper/step0.html) but there's far more to create a (good) paper model than that. The hardest part is to think in 3D<-->2D<-->3D, to cut the 3D model in a logical way and place the flaps in a logical way in Pepakura. You can't really teach people that in a few tutorials, that's something you know or don't know, or can learn from experience, by starting to make a cube instead of a Gundam for your first try, and making lots of small, easy models to get the hang of it.
>> Anoniempje !tT6cNWqI0g
>>42556
A lot of people are actually afraid of the first few tries. By simply making a step by step hand holding tutorial, people can pick it up much easier. at least to my experience.
All I expect from a person, any person for that matter is common sense and the ability to visualize paper models. Seeing how they are folded and such.
>> Anonymous
>>42563All I expect from a person, any person for that matter is common sense and the ability to visualize paper models. Seeing how they are folded and such.
That's what I said (of probeerde te zeggen in ieder geval lol ;). Obviously, I'm not trying to stop you from making a sketchup and/or pepakura tutorial...
But I don't think people are "afraid" of the first few tries. Most of the times, they just give up because it's a lot harder and far more time consuming than they think; is it realistic to expect from a person, any person for that matter common sense and the ability to visualize paper models? 'Cause most people can't. ;) Papercraft tutorials should try and focus on that aspect, but again I raise the question: how the hell are you supposed to teach someone something like that?? Maybe the same way you teach math? Give them lots of homework to learn by doing? Say all you want, but it works (if you do your "homework").

Quick question while we (loosely) are on the topic of Sketchup. Is there a way to converter Sketchup Google files to a format Pepakura Designer supports, or...Is the only solution in Sketchup Pro ?

Pepakura Designer supports Google earth 4 files (*.kmz) and you can export them with Google Sketchup (you don't need pro)
You DO need, however, at least Version 2.1.0 of Pepakura Designer I think.
