Hi, i'm new to the hole papercraft thing and i have a few questions.

1: do i just print out the instructions and cut them out?

2: What kind of paper do i use?

3: What kind of glue should i use?

4: Anything else you guys think i should know.

Thanks!

No you print out the template and cut the pieces out. What would be the point of cutting up the instructions?

lol, I know what you meant, but it had to be said.

especially for a beginner, cardstock is best. it bends like paper, but is much sturdier.

use a cheap white glue like Elmer's Glue-All or Aileen's tacky glue (in the US)
Apply it thinly, most /po/eple use a toothpick or cotton swab to do this.

Start simple, and print as big as you can. Bigger models are easier.

If there's small glue tabs or complex parts, use tweezers to hold them together.

Most important: be patient! Sometimes you have to wait for the glue to dry on certain parts before you can continue. And sometimes you have to hold the parts in place until the glue is dry. Just go slow, and it'll turn out a lot better than if you try to rush.

160-200 gsm (90-110 lbs) cardstock
white PVA glue (Elmer's) glue kids use in school, woodglue

Since this seems like a good topic to ask in, I'll do so. Sorry for the semi-hijack.

I would like to make my models a little sturdier, and I was considering buying varnish to spray over my templates (unassembled and still uncut, of course).
Is there anything better than varnish I could use? I don't know how safe it would be to use on paper, plus I'm afraid of spraying it on uneven, maybe there's a spray that evens itself out? Don't know if it exists, but I think I heard about it a couple of years ago.

Build then varnish, otherwise you get varnish on the tabs too, which doesn't work so well with glue, plus if you have glue that does work it adds thickness to it that makes it look not so good.

Oh, no need to worry about that. I would put masking tape over the tabs, I already figured what the downsides to varnish would be.

But you would still want to put varnish on afterwards. you want it to be on the fold lines and where you glue pieces together. It also makes it look more even that way. There aren't that many downsides to varnishing your model, and the only variable is you.
