hey /po/eple, im in the market for a new printer. Any recomendations?
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question.
Try the technology board. The only thing I'd look for when working on papercraft is a printer that pulls paper straight and not through a curve; if you want to print on cardstock, you don't want it jamming or bending.

I agree, HPs tend to load a lot of crap onto your computer. I like my Lexmark because it was cheap, and ink is pretty inexpensive for it.

I own a HP, sure it bends the card but thats easily fixed. Quality is excellent and it has lasted me for about a year now. But the ink is expensive....

I bought DCP-130c about a month ago and I'm pretty happy with it. A little noisy, but it's a good one in it's price range.

Don't be an idiot and give some hints of what you want it to do.

HP and a Lexmark owner here. HP is by far better. YES the ink is expensive and YES it does curve the paper. However if you buy a nice one (a photo series one or something) they are fantastic. And the ink is expensive because you replace the ink cartrage and the ink heads every time. Unlike an epson or some canons. This means you will get a new set every replace and keep getting good clean lines.

Although this is just my opinion that is based on my experiences. So just give one a try and see how it works out.

Epsons are fine until the fixed printhead wears out or gets clogged, then it's time to buy another.

HPs are pretty shoddy mechanically, and are no better than average in any other respect.

Lexmarks are just bad.

Buy a Canon. One of the models with individual ink tanks. Good quality, low cost per page. Good mechanically. I have worked on (repaired) all the above brands, and the Canons are the first inkjet printers that made me think "WTF? This isn't complete garbage!"

Unfortunately afaik only the "Pro" models have a straight-through paper path. But it is PERFECTLY straight if that's important to you.

I have a HP All in One PSC 1401, got it for a wonderful low price so i cannot complain

scans great, prints great on regular paper and cardstock. I use 86lb.

It will load all sorts of garbage on your computer, it requires some applications to run constantly in the background like HP imagezone. I dont know how to disable it, the apps make take up less than 5mb ram but its extremely annoying that it has to have them running all the time when my printers off.

Its great for printing for papercrafts and photos but I'm going to start simply saving up loads of images to get professionally printed just to save my ink. Sure would be nice to have individual replaceable ink wells for each color, not the bundled color cartridge.
