here is my most ambitious project so far. Dog from half life 2. the blue parts are those I fixed so far. the red ones are those that need to be simplified and fixed so they don't run inside other parts. if I manage to finish this I don't guaranty that I will release a template with instruction due to the complexity of the model

earth worm jim need instructions so as soon as I do them ill releasse it. there is alot of white parts that are impossible to figure out where they go. the test build was very hard to make. dog seem 100x more complicated but I think he will be easier toi build since he is basicly made of alot of parts put together

huge progress. all the parts have been edited. I know that on the pics its only a color change but inside the model alot changed. all the hydrolic cylinders were running inside the others. and all the knee and elbow join and the neck and so on. those who tried to edit video game models know what I mean. the next step is to pass each part one by one again and see of I could change some polygon counts to make it easier. it should be fast. then texturing will start

you use sketchup to model right? What are you using to apply the textures, I can never get a decent texture in sketchup.
>> chamoo232
>>171815
I aply the texture then right click on it and go in the edit texture and I tweak it this way. after im done with 1 face I right click again and set it to projection. what this does is it will take the angle of that face and aply it to all the other u will aply with that copied texture. sketchup is really bad to texture round stuff since it work face by face. I hate texturing

Hey chamoo232 lookin good, I have a question for you though. How do you keep your textures when you export? Every time I apply textures and export as kmz. when I open it in pepakura the textures are gone. Tried googling but came up with nothing, any help would be appreciated.

You need to convert the textures (the .dds files or whatever) into .bmp (I think?). Then in Pepakura there's an option to apply the texture, and you can choose it from wherever it is. When you do this it'll show you what the two supported texture formats are.

thanks for the info, my problem was when you export as a kmz. it loses the texture mapping. I exported as 3ds. and they were there this time, also you have to right click on every different texture and apply the entity info to it.
>> chamoo232
>>172117
I export to 3ds and I use the old pepakura. not the 2.0 for some reason I prefer the first pepakura.

>> Anonymous

just the way it feel. the tools are not in the same order. the icons changed and arent as clear to understand. it doesnt ask 20 question when opening the model to flip switch rotate the model. there is nothing that was added in pepeakura 2 that I need for my models. except the line transparency I used that on Jim but I simply imported my pepakura 1 template in pepakura 2 when it was done

here is the problem I have with releassing the pdo. I spaced the parts to see each one of them in the 3d view so I could place the cut lines myself. its almost impossible to rebuild the model using that even with the check coresponding face tool. but it might be possible for me to redo the template with the normal model once I fixed what I need to fix
>> GoblinGuy
>>174221
A way to remedy that is to take pictures for each part/step you do. Of course you've already built a lot of it, so unless you want to rebuild it (probably not) that's not a good choice to go with.

you could just release some pics of the finished model from a couple different angles as guide pics... I have been able to build some difficult models with pics like that alone
>> chamoo232

for most parts it could work but it wouldnt be good for all the tiny hydrolic cylinders that need to be glued at specific angles. there is 16 parts like that just on the right leg alone. what I though about was to make many pdo. one for each arm and leg and 1 for torso and head. it separate each section and will prevent pages and parts to be mixed. but ill think deeper on that matter when im done with my model. still many days of work left.
