Hey /po/

Was a thread on here not so long ago about how to transfer WoW models in to pepakura but it seems to of vanished. If anyone can repost a guide on how to do this it would be greatly appreciated. I mainly want to know this because although i was never that interested in the game i always liked the look of the Untamed Blade (see pic) and was thinking of making it as my next project.

Any info on how to do this would be a big help :)

That was me. download Model view here

http://www.wowmodelviewer.org/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=35&func=startdown&i
d=29

find and download a program called milkshape, you'll have to look for it. For some reason, Model View only exports ms3d files. Open up the file in Milkshape and export it as a .obj. Pepakura designer will do the rest.

I also made a small site to download some weapons I worked on. These are life size. To edit my filed the password is "l337n355" that's a lower case L, not a 1.

http://sites.google.com/site/sheolspdohaven/

I said I'd do request, but everyone wanted dolls instead of replicas so *shrug*

here is a sword I worked on.

I've never done this before, but as a figure of interest, you can use Wings3D instead of Milkshape and it would probably work out better. Milkshape has a trial period, Wings3D is open source and free.

completely nub question here..
I keep seeing these intensely complicated designs.
do you have a machine that makes these wonderful things or are you just really good at folding things... I tried my first project today... went OK but couldve been better and that was pretty simple.

Things like that spiteblade are just like oh wow Id like to be able to do that.

To be honest, I'm quite new to the papercraft thing. I normally make things for a living, but I can tell you I've had the most fun with folding and glueing. You think you'd be messing up? I can't stand it when one side doesn't match the other. so far there are only 2 blemishes on the sword I made. The thing you need to understand is that you're working with paper....and superglue, you ARE going to mess it up in one way or another. Don't sweat it, you're shooting for the full made product. Besides, for me, the paper is only it's skeleton. I'm going to be bondo-ing the shit out of this sword so I can actually throw it around a bit. As for other request, I will gladly do them, but I am in the process of moving and I'd like to play WoW and not just make stuff from it. That and I need to find more good background noise.

its an okay job considering youre a noob to pepakura a few protips though from a veteran, dont flip the faces at the beginning or it puts all the textures on the inside of the blade and i usually shorten all the unnecessary tabs on the design so they arent all over lapping. still its a pretty good job considering.

Maybe I should expand on that a bit. I got a sword, the one you call sword_2h_blood_a_01.pdo.

I scaled it down in pepakura, I wanted something a little less overbearing. Went for 50cm long. Anyway... The flaps have disappeared. How do I get them back? :( Pepakura n00b, if you cant tell, btw.

Odd, it's not an intensive program, though. Hmm.

This is their forum, I'm looking and it says you need to have at least 2.0.10. WoW.

try deleteing config.ini and log.txt

hell, try uninstalling and reinstalling the program. make sure you have the most updated version here

http://www.wowmodelviewer.org

I looked on their forum but couldn't find any relevant stuff. You might be able to find something though.

How old is your compy?
>> Nahka
>>192169
Quad core 2.4ghz q6600, 2gb ram, 8800gt. So it probably isnt the computer.
I've tried installing and uninstalling it, but I get the same issue. I've got WoW 3.0.2, the latest.
I dont, however, have the latest model viewer. Guess I'll try it.
>> Sheol
>>192168
go into flap configuration. It's in one of the menu options at the top. I've found 5mm to be the best size. It covers ample surface area and is easier to position in place. Do note that if you might have to make your own cut if the flaps overlap. It's no biggie, you'll know what I mean if and when you come to it. happy papercrafting ^_^
>> Sheol
>>192171

that's a good build, the only thing you need is at least 2 moar gigs of ram and another 8800 vidcard to SLI. Your problems will be gone once you d/l the new modelviewer.
>> Nahka
>>192172
Yeah. I went through all the pages of the printout, and some of the panels are overlapping. I'll have to start again I think. The pepakura noob was me on another computer, forgot to put my name in.
>>192173
First thing I need to get is a better PSU though. The extra ram would be a bit of a waste because I'm only under 32bit XP, which cant handle 4gb ram + 512mb graphics card. From memory, 4gb total is the limit, so 512mb of the ram would be wasted. Gonna wait till I upgrade the motherboard, too, because this one doesnt support SLI.
>> Nahka
>>192173
Nope. It still just disappears every time I try to view a model. Sigh.

>>192177
damn, go through the forum and look up info on direct x and Open GL, something tells me your settings might be off.

hah. i was planning on making the corrupted ashbringer in at an irl scale then bondo and fibreglass it but it looks like im gonna have to scale it down because i did the math and assuming the wow characters are 6 foot (my size) then the scale in game is 1:24.6 which means that the corrupted ashbringer is actually 206 cm tall. welcome to the scaling of videogames. anyone got any suggestions what size i should make the ashbringer? pepakura only goes up to 200cm tall >.<
>> Sheol
>>192187
good stuff. I'd go with maybe 5.5 ft, that'll be about 165 cm or so. From piecing things together, helmets will roughly be about 26 to 28 cm tall. Polearms and staves are about 4.5 ft. one handed swords are range between 3-4 ft. 2handed swords range between 4.5-6 ft. and daggers are roughly about 1.5 to 2 ft long. i'm working on warbringer shoulders and making them about 35 cm tall, to cover the full upper arms.
>> Sheol
>>190920

On a side note, I'd only measure items from the humans and bloodelves (if you are the lanky frail type) Any other character in the game is so grossly out of proportion it isn't even funny. I've made the chest piece in pepakura and I just recently rendered the helmet. Shoulders are coming and I think I'll just worry about making the gloves past the wrist as well as the boots past the ankle. I'm wanting to add detail with crafting foam. Will resin eat at it?
>> Anonop !5RRtZawAKg
neat
>> Nahka
>>192188
Okay. So, If I decide to make this thing with faces larger than A4 size, how do I work that? Do I just print them off and join them together? Do I need to get it printed at a special printing place or something, where they can do it larger, or will it hold if I just dodgy it up myself?
Also, what kind of glue should I use? (to avoid issues with resin or putty later... some of them dont react well to some glues, I'm told.)
>> Cypher Anonymous
also guys dont update your WoW to 3.0.2 otherwise it just plain crashes Wow Model Viewer. no more models for me till they update it ;_;

go into pepakura and change the page setting to letter. You are wanting cardstock paper( most business cards are made from this), you can get this all at Walmart. Most printers can handle cardstock. The best glue I've used the Krazy Glue that comes in a purple bottle and has a brush applicator. Resin does not affect the glue. If you are piecing your own models, pepakura has a tool that lets you break down the shapes into smaller ones. I suggest you mess around with it or look up a tutorial.
>> Nahka
>>192589
I'm in Australia, so A4 is the standard page size for us. But yeah, I meant about the giant faces of the blade, some of them spread over three sheets. Do I need to have those specially printed for me in one sheet, or can I just print them off myself and piece them together?
>> Sheol
>>192605
yea, piece them together yourself. Cut the lines, on one side leave enough for a self made tab. I'd suggest a mountain fold. Not a big difference though.
>> Anonymous
I'd actually recommend a straight cut across the printer margin, with a piece of "scrap" serving as a tab behind the split...if you can line it up, it's smoother than the other suggested method
>> Sheol
     File :-(, x)
>>192717
I honestly think I need to make a full pepakura tutorial including the option to resin and bondo, maybe even paint effects. I've gotten alot of questions over time that people just don't want to google themselves. Maybe this will help, no? If there is a full tutorial would someone let me know so I won't waste my time? BTW I've started piecing the Warbringer Helm together so I should have a pic showing my progress tomorrow.

Hey Sheol, just finished the hellreaver from your site. My first ever paper craft, its awsome :D

Bit wobbley around the hilt and a few gaps, but considering its been made from printer paper its pretty sturdy. Thanks very much for the links and ill be keeping an eye out for some more of your stuff ;)

Im making the ice barbed spear as soon as i can find somewhere to print it on card big enough so i dont have to split the shaft...
>> Nahka
>>193240
I had an idea about that. What if you bought sheets of cardboard like they stock at any newsagents, and cut strips of it off as wide as whatever your printer's paper size is (say, A4 or Letter), but 3-4 times as long?
Could you then define that as a custom sized sheet, feed the whole thing through, and print off huge panels?
>> Sheol
     File :-(, x)
>>193240
Aww, schucks. Well, I'm glad that you like it. To strengthen it, you can go get some Fiberglass resin and paint it on. The cool thing about this stuff is, you don't need the actual fiberglass to use it. If you want stone fucking hard material use it, but it's messy and a pain in the ass. Resin does nicely by itself.
Go here for video instructions.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Yyr7cdteCI

BTW this guy is my hero, he inspired me to do all this in the first place.

An update on my Warbringer status. I failed. LOL, I sized the helmet for 28cm when the measurement is from the tip of the horns to the back of the head. The assembled side is way too small for my fat head. I'm still going to finish it and show youz guise. Almost done, I'll have enough time before Halloween to make a bigger helmet, the gauntlets, and a cape. I have to work at the hotel that night, so that will be fun.

pic unrelated.

Lookit! I finished the Warbringer helm and it is way smaller than it needs to be. It would fit a child's head I guess. It looks like I'll have enough time to make a new helm gauntlets and a cape, pretty fucking funny for a costume. Yea, going to practice my bondo technique on this one.

Also, I'm looking at the dimensions of how the characters wear armor. It looks like the human is only good for the chest piece and upper legs. everything else is best from the bloodelf. Damn you Blizzard and your horrible, unrealistic proportions!
