Tom Cruise mask, just in time for Halloween! Gives the wearer +15 couch-jumping.

All you need for the rest of the costume is a black turtle-neck sweater and a crazy-ass laugh. Being extra short is a bonus.

That's quite creepy.

You could always spray paint it white and go as David Ames from Vanilla Sky, too.

Take a good decent-sized head-on photograph of the person you want to make a mask of. Set is as the background in one view pane of Milkshape.

Make a cylinder with a good number of slices and steps, then cut off the back half of it. Stretch the vertices to points on the face you think will give you an accurate shape.

Once you have all the vertices at the points you want, flatten them along the Z axis, then stretch them along that axis to add the depth where needed to make the nose, lips, cheek bones, brow, and hair line.

Apply the photo as a texture on the model.

Export from milkshape as a .3ds

Import into pepakura and finish the process (plenty of video tutorials for pepakura are available on youtube)

Milkshape? Seems promising. Goodbye, Sketchup!

milkshap can be a bit weird at times.

Indeed, it's geared towards low-poly modeling. Does sketchup allow you to set background images?

Nope. I've been looking for a good modeling program where I can see what I'm doing.

Then try Milkshape. It takes a little while to get used to but once you learn to use a few of the shortcut keys it's very fast and intuitive.
