I know a number of people on /po/ have built or attempted this dragon before. I'm going to get to work on it as my next project, but at curious as to where to start. I was thinking building the pillar and then working from the head down.

For those that have finished this monster, where do you suggest starting?

I suggest posting the template for that so I can try.

This is what I did so I wouldn't get bored.

1) Build some of pole
2) Build some of dragon, starting at the head

It's good to alternate between easy and hard so you won't feel tasked. But yeah, you should start at the head. Also take note that when you build new body pieces, the first second of the body goes INSIDE the last section of the body. This might not make much sense now, but when you start building and the last part of the neck doesn't match up with the first part of the first body segment, you'll know what I'm talking about.

What the hell did I just say? I mean "The first section of the body of a new segment goes INSIDE the last section of the body you already made". Also make sure to build one section at a time in its fullest, it's easier than adding one part to another down the pole.

that was my plan. One section at a time. And examining the PDOs I see what you mean about one segment goes inside the other.

So does it actually matter what body section goes inside the other? Ie, should the first section of the upper arms segment go inside the bottom of the head segment, or can vice versa be applied?

I'm not sure. To be safe, just go with what the .PDO looks like. I'm leaning towards no, because then the dragon would be spiraling the other way, yes? There are raised segments in the green pole that the dragon is built around, and you'll notice as you're building, or in the PDOs, how some parts are missing a rectangular section.

Thank you. Another question, though: what program do I need to open a .PDO? I've not encountered one until just now.

chances are you'll encounter more. They're darn helpful for building. Frankly I dislike it when there isn't a PDO now that I'm so used to them.

I built all the sections, including the pole, and then assembled it.

Yo, I was the one that was building the dragon and asking for advice on /po/ like two weeks ago.

Basically, the dragon is a lot easier then it looks since all of the pieces are so big.the head and the stand is a different story however. The head is (unsurprisingly) more intricate and the stand has a long bulky tube that is hard to put together. (Don't underestimate it)

The red asterisks can be ignored, and the holes in the dragon (for the ticks on the stand) will need to be enlarged to fit.

The spines (golden pieces) match up with the faces of the dragon's neck. Remember this when doing atama hige, since there is no 3d reference

I built the dragon from head to tail.

As I'm building the head.... good god I wish there was a lineless version. I don't like seeing all these black lines everywhere. What's weird is the finished picture that's floating around is quite clearly a lineless template.

the pdf is in this page

Can't find shit. Wish I knew Spanish now.

Oh god a lineless template would be great.

You can make all the lines invisible in Pepakura Viewer... Configuration > Print Configuration: move Transparency slider to 100 percent.

problem is is that that removes all the guidelines for the pieces.

Anyone have a more direct link for that site?

I can't navigate spanish.. :(

you could always print it out with the lines and then fold it backwards

I thank you sir/madam.

i gave that a try but it doesn't really work, You have to use the opposite pieces pointed out in the PDO, and I'm assuming that'd bring up problems in the asymmetrical parts.

....sunnabitch. The OP is built inside out so it's just totally mirrored. By god it is possible.
