i'm interested in creating some papercrafts. i see that 3D files i can use are .obj .dxf .mqo .3ds .lwo .stl .kml .kmz how do i find my favorite character in this format?

It depends on what your favourite character is. Most game companies use their own specific file format, not something what everybody uses. So you would have to find a converter program that can open that file format, and then export it to a more common format. For many games, fans are able to figure out how the game data is stored so they can write a small program to convert the files, but for many other games too, people can't figure it out...
So it's not guaranteed, but you have to Google *a lot* and read through *many* forums to maybe find what you're looking for. Good luck!

Your best bet would be to find someplace that ripped the models from the N64 version. I don't think anybody has been able to properly rip models from Melee, plus there'd be the poly count problem. Even with the N64 version, you'd have to clean up overlaps and reduce the poly count on the models to be able to build them out of paper.
