ooh ooh!! I would love any hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy related papercraft!! there's so much potential...
>> Troop
I definitely support this cause.
>> Anonymous
a papercraft of the point-of-view gun would be awesome.
>> Anonymous
At least can someone make labels for the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, to put on beer/alcohol bottles? I'd do it myself but I have a ton of work to catch up on.

There's a bunch of interesting HGTTG creatures that could be made by modifying existing things...Scintillating Jeweled Scuttling Crabs, Babel Fish, mattresses, etc...and dolphins, if there is a bottlenose (not river dolphin) model out there
>> Anonymous
Everyone's supporting, but no one's doing.

I could do the labels, but I don't know the dimensions for beer labels.

There are these, or you can use the beer labels from the DHARMA brand labels.

You do realize you're designing labels for the universe's BEST DRINK right??
>> Anonymous
>>183340
I realize that, I'll try to have them done by tomorrow at about 5PM CST.

I realize that this would only be my fourth model, but I'm always happy to fill requests for something awsome that dosen't yet exist.

Does /po/ give the green light?

Bump for Marvin.

"Here I am, brain the size of a planet, and they still want me to pose for papercraft. Might as well sit in the corner and collect dust."

Just messing around. Build complete, unrapping and test build to come soon.

On an completely unrelated note, did anyone get their requested nurse's hat before it was flushed from the board?

>>184046
Uhh, no, I don't think we got one.

Also, Marvin's head looks a little bit squished. You may want to make it a bit rounder.
>> Zed
>>184048
I'll repost it then in a diffrent thread.

And I his head only looks squished in ths screen cap, gimp's scale tool doesn't have a constrain command.
>> Anonymous
!!! WANT !!!

Thought you might think about adding more polys to the head, it's fairly large so it shouldn't make it too difficult, plus it's the most important part of the character so it'd be worth the bit extra difficulty imo. Still want though!
>> Anonymous
>>184046
It's a very nice body, but the head isn't round enough, as stated already. Plus, the head is supposed to be larger in comparison to the body.

I'm working on this guy.

your marvin model looks good, but I really dislike the marvin from the movie. No where in the books do I remember marving being chibi.
>> Anonymous
>>184221

Newsflash: the movie doesn't follow the books to the t.
HUEG surprise, I know. I'll give you some time to cope with the sudden change in perspective.

If it makes you feel any better, I don't like this version or the one from the TV series.
>> Anonymous
>>184222

LOL, Oldguy here. The book bears little resemblance to the AUDIO drama that aired on BBC back in the day. (which is what the books and movie and tv series were based on.)

Ah... that takes me back. I heard it LIVE while driving home from university.

Yeah, there's that too. Man, live? You are old. =P

Coming along well, here's his head (I did make it a bit bigger). Came out pretty round in my attempt, and it can only look better done by someone with more building skill.

I don't care much for the seam under the eyes, but they were interpreted as “red lines of doom” in pepakura.

http://rapidshare.com/files/148205736/Alternative_Marvin_Heads.rar.html

Features two versions. One has the features "drawn" on (left in pic), in Sketchup and doesn't use any texture other than plain color. The other is textured in anim8or (right in pic) then imported into Sketchup and looks like shit. Texture is included. The problem with the drawn version is that the circles on the side aren't recognized by Pepakura. Once that's fixed you've got a perfect Marvin noggin.

How goes the progress Zed?
>> Zed
>>185652
The progress goes slow Skelekitty, sadly. Had work all this week, and crashed as soon as I got home. I was also waiting on /po/ to voice an opinion on the head before proceeding with the build, as it's the most important part. Picking it back up tonight.

>>184560
Thanks man, that head is perfect. Don't know about your version of Pepakura, but the circles on the side show up on mine, with only two lines misplaced.

Sorry about my version head, didn't mean to let you guys down. I'm working completely in sketchup, no "sphere" option or any decent texturing options.

Wish me luck on the rest of the body.
>> Anonymous
>>185722
sketchup has a sphere option
>> Zed

progress pic

The body is coming along well, though the scale is killing me. The upper arm of current build is as thick as a toothpick.
>> Skelekitty
>>185797
I think twice as big would be good, then.
I'd think a larger scale would probably be better to maintain a quality build.
>> Anonymous
>>185722

Just wanted to help, since I'm also interested in the model but not that great at freeform shapes in Sketchup. I do work on my laptop, so low processing power could be the problem I have with Pepakura or something. Not sure.

You kind of have to cheat to get a sphere. There are lots of tutorials available, so I won't bother detailing the process, but basically it involves using two circles with one perpendicular to the other and the Follow Me tool. (You can use this same process to get a lot of basic symmetrical shapes.)

I'd recommend you make the head as big (or close to it) as the body, since this version of Marvin is on kind of a chibi scale, but of course it's up to you.

Good luck though, I really appreciate you making this for us.

what happened to the beer labels?
>> Zed
     File :-(, x)
Well, it's done.

I may not have finished my test build, but seeing as his left limbs are just reflections of the ones on his right, he's buildable.

He's been sized up 50%, as recommended, has both heads to select from, and I've made a base to help him stand.
>> Zed
     File :-(, x)
Some parts are a little tricky, remember, his upper arm/leg parts end in concave sockets, and his lower arm/leg parts begin with convex pegs.
>> Zed
     File :-(, x)
Those small independent peices are the "caps" for his shoulders and hips.

The black triangles are a patch for his lower leg peg. It was a red line I coulden't fix, so you just glue it on the two tabs that they are close to on the sheet.
>> Zed
     File :-(, x)
With the way I built him, I suppose he could be posed multiple ways.

I would think that the giant noggin on him would make it hard for the model to stand on it's own, so here is a base. He could also be posed to sit on the floor, head hung low in depression.

I hope /po/ likes it.

WOW! I like your Marvin! Thank you.
Can you share the PDO-phile or at least a lineless version?
>> Zed
Hm, guess I could.

You can get all of the files here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/149244291/marvin_papercraft.zip.html

though, you must be quick, I'm short of funds, so it won't be up indefinitely.

Thanks.

Great Model, thanks so much. Maybe if I get a chance I'll put this one together sometime soon.
