Blender halp! Octo
I've finished dissecting the Swordfish II, and it's ready for Pep, but I've hit a snag. Each piece of the model is made of separate objects, so when you open the file in Pepakura, it only reads the last selected object from Blender.

I thought I could work around this by exporting individual pieces (ie motor, body, pod, wings...) but then I hit the scale issue. If I have multiple files how can I keep their scales proportional? Anyone? =S
>> Anonymous
Swordfish, yay! Sorry, I don't have any experience with pepakura yet but is there any reason you can't combine all of the pieces into one object? Select them all and CTRL+J, and each piece of the mesh is still separate.
>> Anonymous
1. Save every single part as .pdo.
2. Open one of these .pdo files.
3. Click File > Import PDO file ..., do that for each other part .
4. Ctrl J + L to scale up + down.
>> Octo
Awesome, thanks guys! So much for being slow/po/kes =p
>> Octo
>>180118

Also, since they are all separate objects, if you select all (minus camera and lights) and hit CTRL+J it gives you the error "This object type doesn't support joining". Seemed like a plausible idea though.

woo! can't wait for this one!

Bump, Need this model.
>> Anonymous
>>180125
You don't need to join them, you just need to have them all selected when you export.
>> Octo
>>180266

Ya I tried that... When I selected everything and exported it came into Pep as a blank. Nothing was there... I might need to reinstall though, since it keeps crashing on me when trying to import certain parts files.

For instance, I can bring in the engine and body, but if I try to import the lower pod it gets to 66% and locks up. That particular object only has around 50 massive faces, while the engine has hundreds of smaller ones, so I don't think it's processing power or anything like that. Any ideas?

what version of pep are you using?

Still using 2 until we get a keygen or I get $38 =S
(I can't give them my serial # from a keygen and pay $10, can I?)
>> Anonymous
>>180414
That's actually a good question. I would say probably not they can probably detect if it's a legit key or not. But i'm no authority on the subject so you never know, worst that can happen is they remove your key from the program you have but you can just run a keygen again(I think)

B-b-b-bump...
Out the door to Hobby Lobby to pick up some colored cardstock...

Thanks for everyone's help, I ended up exporting as .OBJ instead of .3DS and it worked out fine. It's weird since I've never had trouble with .3DS before...

I'm testbuilding it right now, fixing any little things that may cause this to be shitty. Already found a few on the cannon, the rings at the tip were just too small to build properly. Give it about a week, and I should have it all built and corrected for you guys. =]

If it's bump you want, then bump you shall have! Left wing's done, need to add the foils on the right. All in all pretty smooth, just the little ring pieces that I hate building, but most of you guys should be able to get it.

Also, I'm not the best builder, so a lot of the things you see that are wrong are most likely my gluing and not the model itself. =S

did you print it on red paper?
>> Octo
9 sheets of red, 3 of black, 1 gray, and 1 white. I made 2 versions, blank for colored cardstock, and colored for plain white cardstock. I'm out of color ink still, and I think that on models like this, with only 2-3 colors on large areas, color paper looks better.

It's only $.29/sheet at Hobby Lobby, so including a new bottle of glue and a pack of gum, I spent ~$5. Compared to $17 to refill an ink cartridge, I'd say it was worth it! =p

well that's no problem, I have 750 sheets of assorted colors 67lb just lying around waiting to be used. And don't get me started on white stock, *eyes four foot tall stack of reams

Last bump before I go to sleep... About a page left, mostly small stuff. The connectors for the rear flaps, the last stage of the engine, and the handles/headlights.

Also of note, I ended up printing the color version of the motor, and quickly realized why I hate doing that: my fingertips are now... Jet Black? (joke, yes?)

While I am not quite finished with the last details, I can safely say it IS buildable and ready for distribution. I hope someone actually builds it, as far as I can tell no one ever made one of my scratch-built models =/

It's finalized. I meant that my paper model still needed the handles added. But my camera's batteries died before I finished. The .rar I posted is the final version and is 100% buildable.
