Help with textures in Metasequoia?
I haven't a clue how to add eyes, or the stripes for this dragon head. I can provide an eye, if needed.

do you have any reference pics or is it purely original?

Well, here's a pixeled headshot.

I'm having this problem too, anyone can help?

Instead of using the wheel to choose a color in the Material box, browse your hard disk for a jpeg texture (you need to make one you want first).
Then uncheck "basic mode" in the File Menu and you'll see a UV button on the left menu (if you're not using the Lite version that is).
Click it and you'll see the UV map (if you're modelling from scratch, there's not gonna be one yet.
Make sure you have your texture selected in the material box, and the object that has the faces in it in the object box.
Select the faces you want to apply the textures to, and choose "selected > apply material to selected faces. It sucks right now.
Open the UV map (with the faces selected and choose "project". The shape of the faces will be projected on the UV map. Drag the cornerpoints around until the texture looks right.
It may sound confusing because I'm trying to explain this in a few sentences. Try it out, learning new software is all about trial and error and trying out all the buttons once to see what they do.

Worked like a charm. Just need to draw out better eyes. Thanks, Anon!

Of course it worked! You didn't think I made this stuff up, did you?! ;o)
Glad you were able to comprehend my short version... It might take a lot of tweaking and finetuning to get the texture just right, even on a simple model like this. And this kind of tedious work can get really annoying really fast if it keeps looking awkward no matter what small changes you keep making, but don't give up, just go do something else for a while if you get fed up. ;)

Yeah, learning how to stretch one image over several faces now, successfully down with the right eye. Now for.. the stripes! Thanks, this will help lots in the long run. :3

Unfortunately, I have to resurrect this thread. I'm having trouble with the stripes, included is a pic.
Also, I got a gmail account if anyone wants to mail me for anything.. requests, advice, what pokemon they want to see next, etc. Lul.

My mouse misclicks before I get the pic in.

the only way I could help you is to try it myself. I can't explain worth shit.

That's the most :) thing I've ever seen. Holy God that's adorable. I must know where it's from.
>> Moony
you should be able to edit the texture from within mesquatoia, and tell it to rotate 90 degrees

LOL. I pixeled that by hand. I made it for a computer-card thing, which I never finished. Here's the card for laughs.

Shall I upload the .mqo file? I use metasequoia. But then, how would I figure out other problem issues like this later on?
>> POdragon
>>74719
I didn't find the command, so I rotated the image itself.. it's still horizontal. Am I missing something?
>> POdragon
Geez. It wasn't until I changed the projection method to something other than UV, then back to UV again that it gave me an actual polygon to work with.
Problem solved.. for now. 8P

It's a joke, because Jyx is always flirting with everyone. So.. it seemed appropriate. The TaiLSD attack; her tail produces an ecstacy-like chemical powder.

does this have anything to do with furries or scallies?

I'd pay money for that.

If you're making polygons from scratch, their UV coordinates are often very messed up: in this case, the polygon had four cornerpoints, but two cornerpoints on one side had the same coordinates, and two cornerpoints on the other side also had the same coordinates, essentialy making the UV map into a line, not a rectangular shape.
Did you already forget about>>73926?
"Open the UV map (with the faces selected and choose "project". The shape of the faces will be projected on the UV map. Drag the cornerpoints around until the texture looks right."
That's how you get your polygon shape instead of just a line. Then you can drag the cornerpoints around to make the stripe vertical instead of horizontal.

That's mostly what I do, start with a normal shape base and build from there. Is there a way to 'draw' 4-sided polygons, or only triangles?
Also, I don't see a 'Project' button, just Object. Those instructions helped, but that part confuses me. <x<

A lot of people do, actually. :3

If you select the "Create" option in the command panel to the left, you will get a floating panel that says "Create face" "front "back" and so on.
The second row says "Line" "Triangle" "Face". Click Face instead of Triangle. You can now select four points instead of three.
You can also select two adjacent triangles (hold down shift to select more than one at a time) and choose selected -> merge two triangles.

It's more difficult though, becuase a triangle is ALWAYS possible (it's why it's the basic of 3D modelling). No matter where it's three points are, if you connect them, you'll always get a good triangle.
Not so with a face with four cornerpoints. If the two triangles aren't horizontal, you can still merge them and it may look okay, but there's actually a dent in your (sur)face...
So you need to make sure you know what you're doing.

The Project button is on the floating panel that appears when you're working in the UV map (when you click the UV button on the command panel to the left).
