Before anyone says I'm trying to copy Pixel-Kakashi, let me explain my Lugia model.
In a previous thread, I heard Kratos mention there were a bunch of legendaries he wanted made. Lugia sounded like a fun, not-too-difficult one, so I started it. Then left it for a week. Then when I returned to it, I saw PK was making one too. I continued mine, because
A. I'm thinking it might 'stand' more stable, and
B. You can never have too many models, right?

So, here's my Lugia model. Pepakura slicing soon.

Comments/suggestions?
>> Anonymous
Pretty cool and I do like the pose, but as a person in the middle of doing Kakashi's Lugia -

a) the spikes/blue things on the back, I think they look dumb if only one side is colored. This is preference but especially on yours you don't want plain white paper to be showing on his back.
b) keeping with theme of the back spike-things, put a tiny line (nearly transparent) on the final product so we can know where it should go
c) probably fix up the face a bit
>> POdragon
>>143071
A- I planned on copypasting after cutting the model up in pepakura designer, so it would be double sided.
B- My idea was going to be drawing little lines next to the model's edge, so there wouldn't be any marks on the model. Sound okay?
C- Yeah, the face doesn't look right to me. Is it too fat? Too short? I can't figure it out.
>> Anonymous
>>143072
He needs more of a beak.
>> Kratos
I like it. Can't wait to add it to my pokemon collection. :) I agree, you can never have too many versions of your fave paper crafts. do you have any plans to try making any of the other legendary's i mentioned?
>> Pixel-Kakashi !!m4QWeHOOFBy
>>143067
Looking good!

And yeah, the head is a little odd, it does need a beak.

Good work girl!
>> POdragon
>>143086
Heh, thanks :3
>>143074
I'll work on the beak when I get online later.
>>143078
More? Of course. I'm not sure which; list 'em for me again?
But before I do any, I want to make another of my favorite pokemon, Meganium.
>> POdragon
     File :-(, x)
Is this more what you were thinking?
>> Kratos
>>143142
oh lawd. hmm.. I'll try to remember em all. :P There was Lugia,Moltres,Entei,Suicune, Raikou, Articuno, Zapdos(a better one than the one floating around), dragonair, Ho-oh, Mew and Mewtwo (better ones than the ones already out),Celebi, Jirachi,Latios, Latias, the regi's, deoxys, rayquaza, the unknowns, Kyogre, Groudon, Lucario, Palkia, Regigigas, giratina, cresselia, and that's all I can think of (thank you pokemon.com and your pokedex). There are lots of the regualr ones too that i like and I know the list is long and most probably won't ever be made but there you have it. If you choose to make any of them at all I'm sure /po/ and myself would love you forever.
>> POdragon
>>143163
..wow. Well, I do want to make Suicune soon. Dragonair should be easy; I'll work on him later too.. I don't really like the regi's, so ask Kakashi for those. ;P Same with Deoxys. Cresselia doesn't seem to difficult, but I want to make Shaymin too. Way too cute.
>> Kratos
>>143166
Awesome! As many as you are willing to make will be welcome. :D
>> Stratus
>>143154
To me, an avid pokemon player, this looks pretty sweet
>> POdragon
     File :-(, x)
>>143182
Thanks. :D And until others approve of it for final slicing, I'm working on Meganium.
>> Stratus
>>143188
looks like Nessie :P
I think the neck should be a bit thinner in proportion to the head
>> POdragon
     File :-(, x)
>>143190
Better? ;P I elongated the head a little more, too. Flower petals will be added last.
>> Stratus
     File :-(, x)
>>143191
Neck is great, but I think the point of the head should be a bit higher up on the face (as shown)
i know i'm nitpicking a bit, but you're doing a great job with all of your models!
>> Stratus
>>143192
and by this i dont mean tilting the head upwards, i mean making it a bit rounder
>> POdragon
     File :-(, x)
>>143192
Hey, I don't mind nitpicking. I love feedback. And, rounded the head out. Still nitpicking on the body myself. :3

>>143072
>B- My idea was going to be drawing little lines next to the model's edge, so there wouldn't be any marks on the model. Sound okay?
That sounds perfect
>> Stratus
>>143197
exactly what i meant :)
also, i dont think the back slopes that dramatically
>> POdragon
>>143204
Like I said, still nitpicking the body. ;P I'll be changing around the body, every point and vertex for a while until it looks perfect to me. Delete a few faces, redraw them. Move again.
I'm using a bunch of pics from google as reference. :P
>> Stratus
>>143207
I really admire how you do these from scratch, instead of ripping models
it must take quite a bit of time :|
>> POdragon
>>143209
If I work on a model straight through.. it depends on the complexity of the model. Meganium seems easy until you do the main body exactly how you want it. Meganium, working straight through (which is rare because my grandmother's a bitch) takes aboouut.. I'll say it'll take about 5 or so hours, down to the texturing and model completion. I think the most annoying part is cutting models apart in pepakura.
I love making 3D models though. ;P
>> Stratus
>>143210
i am thinking a bit about maybe doing some 3d, but the problem is, i'm on a mac, so no pep
i could make them, i suppose, in sketchup or whatnot, but i would never be able to see how they work out on paper D:
>> POdragon
>>143211
Or, you could make them and hend them to someone who would unfold the model for you. That's always a possibility. :P
>> Stratus
>>143212
yeah, i know people do that
but i'd just feel so dissatisfied with not having finished it myself
but whatever, i'm just a crazy OCD :P
how's the model shaping up?
>> POdragon
     File :-(, x)
>>143214
Here's a few different shots. Do you know where I can find a better eye texture, or is this one okay?
And keep in mind--those antennae are just temporary. Just because it's bugging me that I can't see them.
>> Stratus
     File :-(, x)
>>143215
this is great!
i think the tail should be more v shaped (not too much, though!), that one point on the back (circled) should move up a bit, and the eyes are good, but should slide up the face a bit
but its awesome, keep up the good work!
>> POdragon
>>143217
Done and first petal applied. Only five more!...

>> POdragon
>>143221
xP I'd hate to do the metal part.

Y'know, this has become a Meganium thread..
And the flower petals hate me. Ohhh yes.
>> Stratus
>>143223
yeah, wasnt really planned for a pep unfold, but hey, who cares, Meganium is totally rad!
are the petals 2D? because I should think you could just copy and reposition them

BECAUSE I can't get the petals right, no matter how long I try, I'm doing it differently. Texture goes on paper. Person cuts out squiggly line around petals. Add tab, apply to model.
:>
>> Anonymous
>>143246
I don't think they need to be squiggly- peach shape should be fine.
>> Anonymous
>>143246
looks good to me. Any chance you could add the tab lines to the template, or is it strictly on us. Also, how do you plan to have the petals attached then? A slit in the neck or something?
>> POdragon
>>143249
No, I already tried it..it didn't look right. All 6 times I tried.
>>143250
Tabs? Well, I can manually add them right in metasequoia. And yes, where they attach to the model, the neck will be cut off the body. :D
>> Stratus
>>143246
actually, i like this
you could make em different shapes if you wanted, too, and place them wherever you felt like it
looks great so far!
and google sketchup is a giant dick
no 3ds without pro, although i do have serials for pro, BUT my comp can only run v5, but v6 is current so v5 is gone...
oh fun

how many pedals? On the D/P sprite, I counted 6.

no offence but
the face is a little off

and are you gonna make a Houou or maybe a Suicune?

Well! Metasequoia keeps FUCKING up, sooo everyone's going manually cut their own tabs for the flower petals. Geez this is just stupid.
Anyway, expect templates later.

You need to texture it gray, if you already have a texture file just change it in Pepakura

>> POdragon
>>143348

Exactly. Two ribbon tails and the puffy floofy back, which really shouldn't be TOO hard.. a bunch of mini-mountains, right? That'll be the best part really..because it's SUPPOSED to look uneven :D

>> Anonymous
For Meganium, do i cut and fold those 2 black lines on the top of the antennae in half and glue?
>> Anonymous
hey guys. I am a noob with paint, so exactly how do i do he following 2 things:

1. Make the model bigger
2. Make ONLY the antennae double-sided?
>> POdragon
>>143767
No, only the bottom parts.
>>143775
1. Go to Image > Sketch/Skew OR hit Ctrl + W
Then scale it up to whatever percentage you want.
2. On the little toolbar, the upper right button that has a box picture on it, click that. Now click-and-drag to make a box around the antennae. Edit > Copy, then Edit > Paste and move the antennae to a blank space of the page. You should have four antennae. Print, cut out, glue two together back-to-back.
Ta-da!

I don't know if I just suck, or if I'm too tired. Here's my crappy totodile, so far. I want to do his mouth open, since closed doesn't look right. I'm changing his eye texture later. His body is too fat. His legs are..all right, I guess.
Buh. Suggestions please. Anyways, night all!
>> Anonymous
nice totodile! I agree, the body does seem a bit too fat....anyway, what game is that Meganium model from? The Totodile? Also, would it be possible to make a box around each part and copy it to a new page so that each page has a single, very large part? That way, i could build a giant meganium!
>> POdragon
>>144003
Well, a much easier and accurate way would be to click File > Page Setup for printing options. Down where it says Scaling, choose to upscale it to like.. 1000%, but the lines would become blurred from being so big. But, you could choose to print it over 16 pages by choosing Fit to: 4 x 4 page(s). This is smaller, but will still get you a large Meganium. Life-size, though, you'd probably want to make it twice..or three times..as big I guess. Good luck with the room though. ;P
Enjoy!
