Papercraft Printer Anonymous
Did you know this existed?!
http://www.graphteccorp.com/craftrobo/about.html

It's a printer that cuts and scores the paper to create fold lines and cut lines. Almost as if it was designed specifically for papercraft.

:o cool

Yeah, we knew about it.
But it's kinda crap...
The thing has to know where it needs to cut and where to "score", so either the papercraft has to be made with some special software (I think Pepakura has some program to make it compatible with their stuff) or you have to trace the whole damn thing...
If you're just interested in making papercrafts, it's a waste of money: use scissors or an x-acto. If you want to professionally sell your own papercraft designs in the form of pre-printed kits, yeah, then this could be useful. But trying to get rich by designing and selling your original papercrafts is not something I would recommend anyone here on /po/. Maybe as a side-job, more of a hobby then a real job. Stay in school kids! ;)

Also, it's not a printer. You print the files out on a regular printer and include alignment marks that the craft robo looks for to determine how to cut and score the page. It's apparently pretty slow, too. It takes several minutes to cut out each page.

Ahhhh, ok. Thanks for the useful information.

Of course it depends on what model I'm cutting out, but sometimes I too take more several minutes to cut each page. ;)

I agree on taking a while to cut everything by hand. After watching the video however, I agree that the CraftRobo would delay the enevitable onset of arthritis, but how much papercraft are you really going to do? Also, it's freaking NOISY.

I would do TONS of papercraft if I didn't have to cut it out. I spend more time cutting than I do assembling. That's why I've never done any of the larger projects. I hate cutting.

The music... makes me... want to... kill....

actually, watching that makes me want to buy the craft robo.... I also make tshirt transfers, this can do a lot more complicated designs that I couldn't do with just normal cutting out by hand.

... XD and it does vynil! i always wanted to try my hand at it!

The one down side is that papercraft havnt been caught on here in the USA, without people interested I cant sell my custom patters at conventions to make up the money for the Craft Robo >_< oh the delemma!

Good call. I also do t-shirt transfers. And didn't it seem in the video that it cut out stickers without cutting through the entire paper?

I have a roland plotter that does the same thing, it has an optical head to align to registration marks. I have cut tons of vinyl, including heat transfer fro t-shirts. It is not an endeavour for the feint of wallet. The cutter is only the first in a loooong line of items needed.....

actually if you think about it, Craft Robo is a CHEAP vynil cutter! i was looking at a few vynil cutters and the smallest model (6in wide) costs 500 dollars.
