Run-of-the-mill Stupidity. Anonymous
Greetings, /po/plers.

Your standard dorm-living college slime, here. I'm having some issues with the bitches, er, I mean, residents on my floor stealing the papercraft masks off of my door.

Mostly they take the one in the picture. I don't know if it scares them, or what. Mostly girls that are doing it, btw.

So, question. Would you take them down or make new ones to replace them?
>> Anonymous
Remember the movie "The Name Of The Rose"? Remember the piosened paper?

Well, apply some very effective pioson to it, and whoever takes it and suddenly goes missing is you're thief.

Anyaways, ontopic, if you make new ones each time, they'll make a sport out of it "how much masks can you get" so I say, don't make them anymore, or just decorate the interior of your room with them
>> Anonymous
Depends.
1) you want the girls to take the masks from your door: make new ones and hang them from your door.
2) you don't want the girls to take your masks from your door: don't hang new ones from your door.
Can't a college student figure this out on their own?
>> Anonymous
>>94974
Were every college student capable of critical thinking they wouldn't be stealing them to begin with.

I guess if you build it, they will come, eh?
So then I wonder why everyone else can have decorations on their door?

Seems like I'm just making them out of sheer stubbornness then, in any case. In that I mean it's hard for me to imagine just letting it go.

Thanks anyway, anon.
>> Anonymous
>>94978Were every college student capable of critical thinking they wouldn't be stealing them to begin with.
lol wut..? "If you're capable of critical thinking, you won't steal?"
While you're in college anyway, join a debate club, they'll (hopefully) teach you how to form arguments that make sense; this one doesn't. Many (all? nah, there probably ARE weirdo thieves that really can't) thieves are capable of "critical thinking" and know what they're doing is wrong; they just do it anyway.
Oh, and they're stealing your mask because it looks kinda japanesish, and being weeaboo is trendy and college students want to be trendy. That or they saw your reaction once when you found out it was gone and you overreacted and now they want to see if they can make you overreact again for laughs.
>> Anonymous
>>94980
I'm not talking about stealing in general, but it's paper. The only reason it holds value to me is because I got to put it together. What the hell they see in it I don't know.

I can tell you, I know the thieves. I've met them. They're not thinkers, and they don't take it to be trendy.

Whether or not they do it for lulz, that's probably the case. I don't think I've really reacted to it at all, other than dismissing it as something stupid. So as far as motivation, I think they're just trying to see how long it will take before I finally snap.

Picture your typical blonde stick-figure clones with a Valley Girl accent. That's what we're talking about here. In contrast I'm kind of a dorky tomboy, with glasses and red hair. Not particularly ugly but not particularly beautiful either. People tend to stand outside my door and whisper that I'm a crazy psycho.

So I don't know, maybe they want to see me kill somebody over paper.

This is 4Chan. Do not react seriously by trying to defend yourself against a reply by some anon if you feel he got it all wrong. It's not necessary, nobody cares what the deal really is (anon's life really is not that interesting to other anons, unless you did something really stupid) and people will just make a fool out of you completely trolling the thread to death. Just some friendly advice. X-)

Thank you for the advice.

I hope your door opens outwards, or else you'll kill yourself every time you open the door lol...
Make a 1:1 papercraft shotgun and make this setup just for fun. Find a simple one because it will get stolen too, so you don't want to spend weeks building it.
>> Anonymous
>>95014
Make the paper shotgun a little bigger, then hide a real shotgun inside so everybody will be like "ooooh, I'm so scared!" and take the mask anyway. You might also want to set up some kind of motion sensored camera to take pictures for us when they do.

Sadly, no weapons allowed on campus.
I am tempted to rig my door with mace or something. Maybe ink splatter.
>> Anonymous
>>95026

Ink splatter's the best idea so far. What you could do is make/find an invisible ink. Echoing>>95021's suggestion.

You set up the invisible ink. It goes all over them when they trigger the trap. They wig out, but soon realise that the ink is just going to disappear. Then you switch to regular ink.
>> Psycomega
I know this may be a crazy idea, but have you tried asking why they're taking them?
If the answer is yes, and they answered implying that they won't stop anytime soon, take them down.
If the answer is no, then I suggest you ask.
As much of sociopath as I am, even I would ask why they're doing it.
>> Anonymous
>>95030
Haha, I like.

>>95033
I have asked them, but usually they run away or slam the door in my face. We're actually going to have a floor meeting Wednesday where I'll basically get to confront them as a group and just ask, y'know...WTF? But I don't know if I'll ever actually get an answer.

From what I've heard them say about me I gather that they just don't like me because I don't make an extended effort to be friends with all of them. The phrase, "crazy bitch" is often used, which is just ironic because I'm probably one of the calmest people you could know. That and the fact that they've even gone so far as to get hands and knees on the floor to look under my door to see if I'm standing there. If that's not crazy I don't really know what is.

So in short, I don't know and probably never will. I'm taking them down and going to go visit a lawyer today. Maybe they'll think of something.
>> Anonymous
... so i take it that they are not very attractive?
>> Anonymous
well, not to give high hopes to you, but haven't you thought that... maybe... they like you?
there are freaks everywhere (not calling you one, but them) that feel attracted to different people (as you describe yourself)
let me suggest you something: make something specially for them (no, i don't mean a punishment) like a papercraft they would like. just try to be nice. see, two friends of mine (girls) had their birthdays like two monts ago, with a week between both, and I had like $0 and two cardstocks... fortunately I discovered that one had a strage attraction for girafees and the other one for cows, found a girafee and a cow, made them, and they LOVED them (not literally) they like that kind of stuff. so, instead acting like kids (you and them) why dont you do something for them?
1.- they may stop thinking that you are weird
2.- they may stop stealing your masks
3.- even you couls make friends with them

maybe I'm totally wrong, but what have you to lose? another cardstock?
>> Anonymous
just to leave it clear: I don't mean something like a flower either (at least, not yet) or they may think that you just want to fuck.
just do as I did, (neither I mean a cow or a girafee) something they would like...
something that happened to me (already 3 times) with girls, they bothered me, they throwed paperballs to me, etc, and latter I found out that they actually liked me, and that they did those things to "call for my attention" (don't know if you say it like that)
so, thats my idea, hope to help you

It's probably just the natural normal person reaction that would occur whenever they come into contact with 4chan brethren. Just try not to take it too personally?

Also, that is a pretty lame thing to put on your door. I know this is 4chan, but it just screams weeaboo.

PS: Word up from a fellow red head tomboy with bad eye sight.

>>95235
It's a simple mask. It doesn't take that much effort to put one together. Fifteen minutes maybe.

As an update, one of the girls who steals them asked me where I find papercrafts. I gave her 4chan. I'm sure I'll hear the screaming any minute now.

ummm how about you NOT put it on the OUTSIDE of your door. Just a thought.
>> Anonymous
>>95046
Best idea in this thread so far.

They probably think it's funny to pick on you by stealing your masks. They're nored and it's probably their idea of harmless fun, so you should just confront them with a " If you like the masks, I can make you your own or something else if you like, just please stop stealing mine. kthnx."
Approaching them like a civil person might make them stop.
>> Anonymous
>>95370
Eh, I've already approached them in a civil manner several times. Either they ignore me or they literally run away.

>>95318
I had debated over something similar, like putting one on everybody's door. But yeah, at this point I'm just waiting for them to get bored.

So the masks are down for now, but probably just temporarily. I'm going to host a big papercraft session where they can sit down with some easy ones and hopefully realize that it's just gluing some paper together. Maybe they'll settle down if some of the mystique is clarified for them. Until then, whatever.
>> zel
>>95342
wait, ARE There even such ones?

good luck in your meeting. my suggestion would've been to write a note on the back of the mask saying they should be ashamed of themselves for stealing it, blah blah blah...

i know it wont do you much good, they might still do it, but you never know... it might leave a bit of guilt on them or something..
>> Anonymous
do you have a template for the mask in the picture?
>> Anonymous
>>95384
gah! finally someone that doesn't think that I'm an idiot! thanks!

OP: not meaning approaching them with a first sentence like "hey, dont steal my masks! oh, and hello" but with a "conciling gift" and telling something like "hey, I've noticed that you like to take (not STEAL) the masks I put in my front door, so I thought that you would like this" *gives crappy-easy-to-do-papercraft-but-as-it-

     File :-(, x)
All terrific ideas. I've had several people suggest I write something on the back of the masks, either a friendly note or some kind of guilt trip. So maybe when I hang them back up I'll do that. One of the girls that does it has a birthday coming up, and I'm in charge of making birthday signs for people's doors. I figure I'll make her some kind of papercraft birthday thing. I don't know what yet. Don't really have any templates, but I'll probably find something.

In any case, since the floor meeting several of the girls made it a point to just hold everything I say in disdain, but hey, I'm too fucking stubborn to give up.

So once I'm doing the papercraft meeting I figure I'll be like one of those clowns who makes balloon animals and try taking requests while I have them make some of their own.

So, yeah...

(Note to self: check the thread you're posting in before you submit, dumbass.)

Most of them are from here, really.
The knight's helmet is from
http://ravensblight.com/papertoys.html

The Death Note (I don't know, is it?) was from the rapidshit mask pack that's been passed around here. http://rapidsearch.yi.org/?s=masks

So is the OP pic, though you'll also see it float around by itself here. Lurk moar, etc. etc.

The one thing I will never understand about people who are first getting into papercraft is that they are so confounded by where to find the damn things. Between Google and rapidshit it couldn't be any easier than it is to put the damn things together. Go figure.

just for the fun of it, they'll steal it (i'm sure), next time put up another face of them, only slightly altered, with something depraived, and build on the depravity each time :).

or if u don't want to come of was a weird freak, they're just trying to get ur attention, and looks like one of em actually has an interest in your hobby. ice has already broken (just don't bring up the 'why are u stealing my...' as opposed to 'if u like them so much i can show you how to make many other neat things too')
