dear /po/

i'm kinda new to papercraft, and i was wondering what kind of glue is best to use and where would i be able to get it?

thanks much.

I am pretty new to /po/ as well, but I've found good ol' Elmer's gets the job done.

glue sticks work well too.

Bostick All Purpose extra strong adhesive works extremely well. As soon as you put two bits of paper together using it, they stick, and after a few minutes it's impossible to break unless you rip the paper.

Actually, I found that glue sticks don't work so well... Not only is the big surface o fthe glue stick not really suited to apply glue to the flaps in many cases, but the quality is often not to good either: in time, the parts may start falling off... Depends a little on the kind of gluestick you're using ofcourse.
Most people use white PVA glue, like Elmer's (popular brand name in USA). It's basically carpenter's wood glue, which works very good as well.

So true... my rex's arms fell off, then the legs. never again will i gluestick...

Luckily, you can just glue them back on when that happens, right? With better glue this time. ;o)

not really. the glue stick creates a kind of seal that prevents the glue from being absorbed into the paper, thus preventing a good bond.

Try to scrape it off, maybe that works.
But really, with better glue, I mean glue that couldn't care less if there's any residu from some shitty glue stick left. ;)
But try scraping first.

I'm new to /po/ too, but been modeling for a while.
I've used that Eurotrash glue "UHU", just don't, simply don't use this shit.
"Elmer's" is the stuff, guaranteed. Any white glue performs better than UHU. "Aileen's tacky glue" works even better.
If you actually care about how long your model will live (UHU de-bonds in a couple years), white glue is okay, but get yourself a jar of "heavy acrylic medium". It bonds really slow, but holds forever when done right and the whole model can be painted with it, so smeared joints vanish.
If parts already have glue and unbond, I used super/crazy glue to reattach.

Gluestick glue tends not to stick well if you can't really press parts together (such as gluing the last inside flap on a box or sticking an arm or leg onto a box), and it also deteriorates rapidly.

I'm always very careful where I put superglue or crazy glue, because it soaks into the paper and dries with a "wet look". It's great for hidden seams and joints, but not for much else, unless you paint the paper with acrylic first to stop it from soaking in.

The old glue left on prevents superglue soak through.

I found plain old white glue works best. No particular brand.

Right now I'm using some 'clear drying' stuff, but it's too wet.

"Clear drying"? Anything like elmers "gel". It was something like:
"School glue washable easy squeeze run-less non-toxic gel"
Awful transparent blue dries clear warps every type of paper i tried, very weak hold.
Its worse than UHU. tRied both uhu stick and liquid, mentioned before- utter crap.

Styrofoam glue for applications that need adjustment, if it can hold styrofoam together, it should hold paper as well. And dry adhesive (like double stick tape but stronger, higher tack) for general surfaces.
