On the left, F-117A papercraft, on the right, RC plane guts, to the far right, said RC plane's controller.

Place your bets. Will it WIN or FAIL.

Besides papercraft and videogames, I enjoy flying small RC planes, recently one of them was wrecked, so I took its guts and wanted to try this idea out.

Plausible win, most likely will fail. Unless you use some type of Gorilla Glue, the parts are likely to fall right out of the plane.

wish it would work but it will probably be unstable

good luck!

Good news everyone! It worked...kinda.

At first it was tail heavy, making rolls, but after adding some weight to the front (the pictured arcade coin here) it flew. However, its overall weight is too much, so instead of going up, it slowly but surelly decends.

A very weak Win imo. I made the bottom out of cardboard and the rest with a stronger than usual paper, any sugestions of something lighter? Wish I knew how to find/work with foam.

the problem at this point isn't weight - you can't shave off that much with what you've got. The mechanics probably weigh a lot more than the paper.
What you need is lifting surface, so think larger wings, maybe the same model maybe 30% larger.

That sounds like a great idea!

Does anyone know how to change the size of a pdo? (Pepakura). If not I'm gonna have to trace it, I can fix some errors while I'm at it, since there where quite a few annoyances.

Send em the file and I can

there is a scale up option (crtl+l) that scales up by 10% and there is also an option which will allow you change the scale by how high you want the model overall
>> Anonymous
just put a little less weight in the front to lift the nose slightly.

Here's a download in my site of the pdo:
denkiteki.com/download/f117_08.zip

I'm guessing it needs to be twice as big, since that's the common size of these RC planes.

I'll need to come up with something to meassure/add the weight more accurately, cause all I did was add a coin to try to add more weight to the front.

I'm actually surprised it worked at all, considering the only reason F177-As can fly is their advanced avionics. Without computers controlling the flight surfaces, the real planes would fall out of the sky.... =S

Do you have a link to a video or info about that? Not like I'm gonna replicate that, but it'll be interesting non the less. :3

I fucking love this aircraft. It's true thats there's better technology out there, and the F-117 is retired, but it looks so bad ass.

Guess I'm a confirmed nostalgiafag.

I traced it and made it bigger :3

And thats it, I'm gonna print this baby up and see how it goes. :3

Having flung my fair share of planks around the sky (and at various objects on the ground...), I'm a bit amazed you got this working... More power to you, though, and keep up the good work.
Are those the guys from one of those airhogs planes?

Nah, this is the guts of a StarScream F-22 RC from radioshack, the design and motors are insane, but its all ruined by a terrible signal strengh, its a shame really.

With the shitty model you are using I am quite surprised it flew. That model doesn't look anything like it is supposed to fly.

What do you mean shitty model? its near identical: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-117A

After building the first one, I compared it with the pictures in all different angles and its pretty darn accurate, most commercial F-117 RCs look hardly like the real deal. (And to boot, all of them aren't for sale anymore...)

I still haven't tested my resize>>200803, but hopefully that one will work a whole lot better.
