Finally finished the first arm, half way through the 2nd and 3rd.
Turning out pretty well so far methinks.
Estimated time for finished product: mid-to-late May, due to 41 pages (I won't settle for anything less than life size).
Does /po/ approve?

psychic powers failing...
whats it an arm of?
>> OP here Anonymous
It's one of three identical arms, from a papercraft as of yet unattempted by man.
Have a look at the classicly shaped 'head' (the bit on the far right on the top pic).
This is something a lot of people will be wanting in their collections, although I suspect that the number who will be willing to cut, fold and glue 41 pages is going to be rather small...

1 internets for the correct answer to the question of what this is :)
However, I am going to bed now. Back in about 8 hours.

before you go, im assuming gravity gun from HL2?
if not, can we has another hintzy?

Been done, and looks different. My first thought were the small droids that clung to Anakin and Obi-Wan's ships in EpIII, but those looked completely different when I googled them.

I've seen these before, my brain just isn't allowing me to properly access that portion.

if not gravity gun
then it looks a lot like the portal gun

Not quite right, and he said it's going to be life size. My mind keeps running through Star Wars droids, but nothing's coming.

Whatever it is, my comment/advice/remark would be to make everything in paper: no wooden parts.
For me personally, it always takes the fun out of it when it's not entirely made out of paper. I want to print the parts, and that's it.
And if it's just simple cylinders like that, it would be totally doable to make them in paper, so why make them in wood anyway?

strength. that looks like balsa wood, very light

>>135067
Doesn't look like balsawood (which is light, but not very strong anyways) but like an ordinary wooden dowel (you know, you have two wooden parts you drill a hole in each parts, glue+dowel inside so you don't see it).
But a chain is only as strong as its weakest link, and in this case that would be the relatively long, thin legs: if you make the joints out of paper instead of wood, the legs will still buckle long before the stress would cause the paper cylinders to give in. You don't need added strength at the parts which aren't going to be the problem; if you use thick paper for the legs, they can be strong enough too, joints made from paper cylinders will be more than strong enough too: one part made from wood doesn't give your entire papercraft the strength of wood: and it doesn't need to be, as long as you treat it like strong paper, not solid wood.

Very true, but this is my first papercraft, apart from the really really easy ones, and I just wanted to get on with it. The cylinders also had chamfered edges, which would have been a bother to do out of the card I am using. But I do still feel guilty about doing it =P

Besides,>>134997has already been awarded teh internet.

Forgot to mention, it *is* balsa wood. Easy to work with, and very light.

Well the idea is that I'm just going to be using the papercraft a as base from which I will be building up, ie I'm going to use some sort of modelling clay to smooth out the planarity of the papercraft model. Otherwise it won't look as good as it could.
If I wanted to completely make it out of paper, then I wouldn't have used balsa wood.
Would people be interested in the .pdo for this? If people are interested, and I can get my computer to behave, I'll upload it :)

Post the .pdo good sir!

This belongs in /craft not /po substituting paper for wood because it's a "difficult"
shape
>> Anonymous
The majority of it is done with paper, only those tiny bits are to be done with wood. Nowhere in the /po/ rules does it say that all papercrafts must be pureland.

Whereabouts is /crafts?
