Nicholas D. Wolfwood's Cross grim_eko
Wasn't someone going to make this earlier this summer? What ever came of it?

Once again Brian Chan has done it (a while back) from one square in origami.

I mean one that doesn't suck.

Chemo slows me down. Between that and work, I have had very little time to work on it and I am still fighting the spring mechanism to get it to open reliably.

OUT OF PAPER?!

Yes, a 1:1 scale papercraft cross punisher with machine gun and grenade launcher ends that will spring open. Once I get the mechanism worked out, I can build up the punisher around it.

The problem is that I am on really heavy doses of medication and I basically end up getting my work done for the day and I am spent. So work on it is very, very slow on top of my need to make dozens of prototypes of the internal mechanisms.

Where is that image from?

It's from the DVD

you could use the mechanism from the gungrave gun and modify a track or w/e into it so that as it pulls the 2 parts back it also separates, showing the insides

or that when you pull the handle it pulls back and the ends spread, ill draw a pic of what i mean later im too tired right now

yeah.. this is too big for paper.

If you used the thickest card gpsm there is, maybe. But it would still be flimsy and easily dented.

Reinforcing the main parts might help I guess, but I'm still not optimistic. Would work better in plywood or such.

If you know what you're doing, paper can be very rigid. Plus the mechanism is based on the dai nihon gaiken pattern and will use some cardboard - if this is the same cross poster from summer who is working on it. The entire cross could weigh 1/2 pound and be able to support 250 pounds without denting with the right corrugations.

one word ...foamcore for the main body and covers over barrels. Heavy cardstock or cardboard for details and layering inlays.

Gun barrels, half cylinders as the opening closing mechanisms will have to be hidden inside.

Mchanism. Rod/shaft with hinges to rods that attach covers at either ends which allow it to pull out and back with a pull string. Springs retract covers back over gun barrels once string is slack.

I guess my years playing with puppets and stage magic is paying off.

Need better sketches (production) to make a decent 3D model. Precisely top/front/side views where all sides are the same scale. Then I can load that image into 3D program as background and work from there.

How about corrugated cardboard, like that used for really sturdy boxes, or even foamboard?
