Stop overreacting. Some time back, there was a stencil flood. I've seen this "tapecraft" doll-like thing a couple of times now. But people get this board is for posting/requesting papercrafts and/or origami instructions.

There have been all kinds of floods here, but only because people realize that this is the closest board on 4chan to what they're looking for. There's currently a request on the Imageboards Text Board for a stencil board. It's almost always been on the first page since it started, mainly as requests for boards related to some of the other hobby crafts that get posted here.

http://dis.4chan.org/read/img/1162863142is the url for the discussion on adding boards to stop the flood in /po/.

The floods are pretty rare.

All in all, this is the best behaved crowd on the site.

I've been meaning to say thanks to /po/. We're mature and even use proper grammar! It's amazing that this is actually a 4chan board. Simply astounding.

Actually, What I was thinking about is since there are so many requests and re-requests for papercrafts and just the overall form we take, we need our own board – paperchan if you will. A place that we can post whatever we want with its own permanent archive of every papercraft we post, compiled by the moderator I would assume before deleting the post as too old. We'd also have 18 pages before the deletion cut-off because by my estimates, that would stop 90% of the people that request something 1 or 2 days after it got deleted.

It is just that it seems out of all the boards here at 4chan, /po/ and /k/ are the only ones that are consistently "serious."

So /po/ here would become a handicrafts board, which we would all still visit, since as papercrafters we are the penultimate scroungers of the net. But we could have our own home where we could gather and make a truly epic front in the online papercraft community. A place where anyone can go to find just about any papercraft. And it would further help to make the hobby grow even further – which is a boon to us, since more people = more models made and bought and shared.

Extemely well said. I really think we have a few trolls that are just WAITING for posts to be deleted before making requests. Pepakura.info was a wonderful site, but I don't think it'll be returning, andhttp://plus4chan.org/probably won't update again... those were, I guess, the first two tries to give /po/ a true home.

Perhaps the third time will be the charm?

That would be so nice. We could even split the board into different subjects. Origami, kirigami, papercraft. I wonder if filmcraft falls in with us, since it is basically just papercraft done with transparencies – well, if it did, it could have its own section too.

But I would like to see an open-access, consistently english-speaking alternative to 3dpaper at least.

I like this board.
I'm normally on /b/, lol.
At least you guys use proper grammar.
Love to /po/.
I might stay here a while. :3

I agree, /po/ rocks paper scissors.
Some (/b/tards) say it sucks because granted, compared to other 4Chan boards, especially /b/, /po/ is a slow board. But I prefer quality over quantity (and at least this way a new papercraft doesn't get bumped off the board in an hour, so the others actually have time to save it ;o).
I'm into papercraft myself for a few years now already, but it was /po/ that helped me find those rare papercrafts I've been hunting down all that time, but couldn't find.
/po/ just rules.
As a thank you, here's a new link to the "Contra Bike" papercraft: http://www.konami.jp/gs/game/contra/papercraft.html. It was on http://www.konamityo.com/contra/, but that's dead now.

More rules are definately not needed, they'd just be ignored anyway. Before coming onto /po/ I'd been into origami but now I'm really into papercraft too. Thanks /po/

/b/, like many random boards, is the core of 4chan. When I look at the way 4chan functions, it seems that /b/ is the primary board, /d/e/h/hr/m/r/s/ are secondary boards, we at /po/ are in a tertiary board region and a few of the others are more accessory boards.

Like /k/, alot of the people on /po/ are more or less exclusive to the /po/ to one extent or the other. But unlike /k/, we have special needs in having to have large file sizes like /hr/ amongst other things. Needs, that though they try, are not always given the precedence and attention needed because of our tertiary level in the hierarchy. Having our own dedicated chan would simply be a way of addressing our needs more thoroughly by having us not be merely a satellite of the stronger boards.

Just as our craft, we are slow, methodical, and thorough – so sometimes the climate and procedures of 4chan do not always work in our best interests.

>>29845we have special needs in having to have large file sizes like /hr/ amongst other things.

"Normal" papercrafts are just jpegs of about 50-300 kB. A simple papercraft in a multiple page pdf-file might exceed 1 MB. If simple papercrafts are over 2 MB, they're ridiculously large; you don't need high resolution detail on simple papercrafts, since you're just gonna print them on A4 (or US letter) cardstock. You'd just loose all that detail so it's a waste of resources.
So where would you need to set the limit? 3MB? 4 MB? Sooner or later, you'd find one that's 4,1 MB... The really big papercrafts like the Eva units and such can easily exceed 20 MB. And that's a bit much. So we're gonna have to use Rapidshare and other filehosters anyway, might as well use them for files that are 2,1 MB as well, instead of starting at 3,1 MB; what's the difference? It's not like most papercrafts are *just* over 2 MB... Most of them are *way* under 2 MB. ;o)
The 2 MB upload limit is fine.

I would see it put to 8MB like /hr/, that would pull in about 90% of the papercrafts out there.

As I estimate it (based on the average files posted here and the contents of my papercraft folder):
30% are under 500kb
20% are 500kb to 1MB
15% are 1MB to 2MB
10% are 2MB to 4MB
10% are 4MB to 5MB
5% are 5MB to 8MB
and 10% are over 8MB

My reasoning is simple. 4chan is at a point where bandwidth is an issue and would not give us the space if they had it to give because we are a lesser board. And further, many people hate fileshares, especially rapidshare to which alot of people would attack with bloodied fury if they could, so having the smaller end, the up to but not exceeding 8MB files, available en situ would encourage more sharing and less hassle. You make things easy for the poster and they will be more likely to share what they have.

You must only build big papercrafts. ;)
In my collection, about 90% are under half a meg. I mean: many of them have multiple pages of parts, and together they might be over 2 meg, but alone they're well under the upload limit so you could just post them all one by one. You have to do that anyway since you can't upload ZIP files here, so why ZIP them so you need to use that "dreaded" rapidshare anyway of yours instead of just uploading them here?

All papercrafts in a single file of over 2 meg (let alone 8 meg...) will be a multiple page pdf, not jpeg or gif I hope... ;)
You're talking about BIG papercrafts like the Eva Units, Howl's moving castle... We need an archive like Plus4Chan for those, instead of uploading them here only to get bumped off the board...
And what about papercraft pdfs of 8,1 meg? Why set the limit at 8 meg? Whenever you say: so we can upload MOST papercrafts here, I can say "we can do that with 4 meg" or "we need 9 meg for that". How can you say: MOST papercrafts are under 8 meg and not under 4 meg, or over 8 meg? How did you come to that conclusion? By your own archive? My archive will do just fine with the 2 meg as it is, and somebody else's archive needs 9 meg to be able to upload "most" pdfs. It's impossible to tell what MOST papercrafts are, so you can't define a definitive size limit for MOST papercrafts. All you can say is: papercrafts are basically jpeg images (converted to pdf or not, or even in the original even smaller pdo size when made with Pepakura designer) that need to printed on A4 paper, and for jpegs that need to printed on A4 paper, 2 MB is already a lot...

Well, as I said, I took the average from those posted or linked to from /po/ and my own archive (which is 82.1GB and has its own dedicated hard drive). I made the comment on the grounds of what I have seen and accumulated en masse. Sorry.

No matter what the filesize limit is, Murphy's Law will make sure that the file you want to post is 1 byte too large to fit.

Luckily, there's Rapidshare and the like, and perhaps eventually we'll have a site again.
