Wickering origami XX
Hey guy this is sort of a request, I was down the street today and saw a man make these 3D animals out of thin bamboo. Hey told me it was Wickering Folding art. I am yet to find any info on it.

Did it actually involve folding of any kind? Or did he just bend the small bamboos around a stiff frame like in the picture?
That's just called "wicker" (hold the "folding art", the guy was just messing with your head). They usually make furniture or baskets out of it.

I watched him, it was all done by hand he was making frogs, grasshoppers, rhinos with just bamboo and folding, no templates.

It's hard to understand what you mean exactly, because what do you mean exactly by "folding"?
With paper, I can imagine folding: folding the a paper page double. But "folding" bamboo? Bamboo is not a flat surface, so an image comes to mind where somebody bends a bamboo so it holds a curved shape. That's basically what they did in>>40879. Did it look anything like that (I know it's not an animal...), or did it look entirely different?
Did the guy cut the bamboo in half, then in half again, then in half again etc, to create a "sheet" of bamboo and folded that? Otherwise, I still say it's just "wicker", not a folding art.

It was like a sheet. If this is wicker I don't care not trying to win a debate here lol, can someone point me in the right direction to create things like this. Bamboo I now not so sure, it was pretty flexible. Only by what he told me and I saw .

With wicker you use the small flexible branches and bend them into shape around a rigid frame.
If it was a sheeth, then it wasn't wicker.
Don't know what it was then, sounds a lot like the guy was doing the same as scratchbuilding "papercraft" (that's when you don't use a template, but cut out the required shapes right there on the spot, while you're designing/making it). Only he used bamboo sheeths instead of cardstock. Only thing I can think of the way you describe it.

thats possible, most woods if soaked in warm water for a while become quite flexible

Wrong thread. Confusing for people who don't know what it's about...

>>41019. Yeah my bad. Thanks for the pic and the reply. The info still limited though. Anyone interested though?
