Dear /po/,

I was wondering if anyone ever made anything from the zelda models that were released ~ 6 or so months ago. (the ones from twilight princess)

I know some of them were high poly counts but I am willing to bet they would have been easy to simplify.

I do know that there is a site (http://members.home.nl/saarloos/zeldamodels.htm) with some cool zelda ones. And then there is this one (http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/album/553383297ckYikD?start=12) that shows even more bad ass papers being done.

I was just curious if there had been anything done with the models.

It's not hard to reduce the polygon count, that's just a lot of tedious and boring work, but that's by far not the only thing you'd have to do.
The reason why ripped game models don't make very good papercraft models is not just the polygon count, it's the fundamental way they're designed: great for a virtual world, not so great if you need to make it out of paper in the real world...

There is the darknut(both kinds) armor.

actually the a lot of the zelda models are all right for making papercrafts out of. The bomb was made, the darkuts armor(and swords)
>> Anonymous
does anybody have a picture of the darknut in both armours?

one thing I would like to know, who made this, was it ninjatoes?

I think you're crazy and/or blind

no i'm on about the darknut, hes not on the site. is that by ninjatoes?
>> Anonymous
>>83701
No, it was made by a /po/erson.

ok. thank you

Well, props are simple enough of course (though most of them somehow still end up very complicated to build...) but for the characters (you know, the real cool stuff you'd really want a papercraft of) it's quite a different story unfortunately; even the Darknut armor is just a bust, without legs and most of the arms (btw, this does not mean /po/ doesn't love it!!)

specifically me!

Didn't you make a stand for it as well? Some kind of greek/roman column?
>> Jimbim
>>83704
well with characters it's mainly their faces that are hard.
>> Jimbim
>>83706
no that was for a zora bust that went bust lol(This means it didn't work too well)
>> Jimbim
>>83709
and it was a column from zelda that I modified to be shorter and smaller

lol "mainly" their faces, meaning the rest of them is just hard to do as well...
How about the hands? On any game after 2001 (well, you know what I mean) each finger is a seperate finger. Great for games, not great for papercraft... The clothing wrinkles realistically, great for games, but for papercraft, it just means a lot of folds for details you don't really want; folding all those wrinkles in the cloting can make the papercraft very difficult, which is a bad thing...
You need to find a good balance between detail/simplicity, and for many new gamemodels, if you don't do A LOT of work on them, that balance is gone completely in favor of detail...
THAT's why it's so hard to make good paper models out of next gen game models...

clothes aren't really that hard and hands are easily modified to be solid structures, but the detail in the face is hard to get rid of unless you want a triangular pyramid for a nose.

>>83713but the detail in the face is hard to get rid of unless you want a triangular pyramid for a nose.
Although the way you tell it makes it sound like it's different, it's actually basically the same with the hands:
>>the detail in the hands is hard to get rid of unless you want solid hands instead of seperate fingers

That's my point: the original model isn't really suited for papercraft (seriously, not just the face, dunno why you keep hammering on why it should only be the face that's hard? It's probably hardER because it has the most detail, true, but the rest can be hard as well)
ALL the pieces need to made simpler with less detail so it can be a good, easy to build papercraft. You can't just do the head and leave the body as it is: it too will need work. Less maybe, that depends on the model.
But what you call easily modified, some/many/most people suck at... ;)

But of course it's not the same for each model or each game... On some games, the models need less work than others. But many people unfortunately don't do enough work to "easify" the models I think; many times, the clothing is left as it is, meaning it breaks down in dozens of parts, while with a lot of work, it can almost be like 2-3 simple cylinders/cones, still look awesome and be MUCH easier to build...
It's a shame most people don't do "enough" work, but of course, for most people it's often their first model so they're just learning, and hopefully they can get better and better! ;)

Yeah I see your point, and that's why I tried to focus on objects and not characters (my zora bust sucks ass)

Luckily /po/ welcomes all new papercrafts, so those as well. ;o)

Well I just went through a hard drive crash so I'm ripping the game again(and this time making a catalogue of what each file is) so I will probably be able to give out some more in a little while(I want to get the cataloguing done first)
>> poster of the spiral.
Sadly my modeling skills far exceed my papercraft skills. :( (which is weird because my wook carving and whittling skills far exceed my modeling skills o.0)

Anyhow, I wouldnt really mind modifying some of these. ;-p even If i do not necessarily reep the rewards directly. Keep up the good work i suppose is the basic jist of what im saying ;-p

well I'll let you know when I'm finished my catalogue, so people can start requesting 3D models.(But not yet)
