When papercrafting, accuracy builds with experience. When you have a lot of white showing, make sure that you cut evenly and folded the tabs properly. If you have trouble reaching all the flaps... you're probably gluing them in the wrong order; try to figure out how not to "glue yourself into a corner".
The tutorial I linked to before shows one other main technique; not gluing the TABS, but gluing the EDGES THE TABS JOIN TO. This helps a ton when trying to join a very small tab to an edge, and the excess glue stays hidden.
Keep at it, you'll get it next time.
