I agree, the guy seems really nice and is very fast to reply. He wants to diplay them all eventually with a 'where everyones from' type thing - see if his squirrel can make it round the world. So c'mon guys, dont be so lazy and give the guy call!

More paper model designers link to this "Creative Common license". Usually American designers, typically (no offense...) They seem so worried people will steal their free work, but there's nothing there you can't think of with your common sense (maybe that's why it's called creative commons lol). And I'm afraid I don't know any people who give a shit about an amateur paper model designer linking to this text, sorry...

Was that part just rude, or ignorant? And on purpose?

One poster didn't post the template because he said request it by email, so as not to potentially irriate the designer. The next poster point out the designer has said he will post for download the templates, and also has the CC licnese that says it's OK to share/dstribute AND MAKE DERIVATIVE WORKS of this item.

So, are you just being nasty because you think /po/ means "pissed off" and you want to /po/ "piss on" someone (or maybe in your neck of the woods, you are just "pissed" a term "Americans" don't usually use to describe their state of inebriation)

Play nice, drink responsibly,

And type carefully.

I am working on my own skin of this, but he is not replying to my e-mail – most likely because it is probably 1AM there now, heh.

I am just a little impatient to get started as my idea will probably take a week at least just to detail in photoshop. And I am having a bit of a problem.

The PDF file, how do I import the pages into photoshop so they are high resolution, instead of screen resolution, but save them so they are in the original scale of the papercraft initially?

How do I compile all 6 pdf sheets into one, 6-paged pdf?

Oh gawd, another one... Of course it was on purpose, but I dunno if anybody finds that rude, that's up to the person themselves reading it of course ("to not give a shit" is quite common language for "to not care" you know...) So yeah, maybe you say "don't care", and I say "don't give a shit". Good luck in public if you can't take that kind of language lol
What I meant was: people do not care if some amateur designer (maybe you thought THAT was the rude part? Calling him an amateur, thinking I was calling him a bad papercraft designer? It meant: not getting paid for it, as in it's not his job...) links to that common license thing. I was talking in general: if some amateur desgner (ANY amateur designer) links to that text to try and protect his work in any way (don't distribute without permission or whatever) people "do not care" and do whatever they like with it anyway; they will not be frightened/discouraged by a text on a linked webpage... My point being: it's no use linking to the text.
Capisce? Sorry to piss you off. ;)

And you don't think that your post is abrasive as well? 4-letter words are *NOT* common in most circles, and if one of my employees told me "I don't give a shit" I'd fire them on the spot for insubordination. It's *not* the same as "I don't care."

As for your "angle" on this, it's waaay off skew from the post. The post was saying the artist RELEASED the work to the general community, and you are sitting here ragging on something *COMPLETELY* different.

Problem with these boards is people like you, who type their OWN agendas and states of mind about someone else's post, without ever really reading the post(s) they are replying to. It just stokes the fire and fans the flames.

Basically, I see the posts as trying to point out it would be OK to post the templates here, as requested, not wait to email the artist, because the artist intends to post them, *AND* has released the templates ALLOWING redistribution WITH alterations (eg: derivative works). You, for some reason, started ragging on the artist, poster, this thread, Americans, and the CC license, for something TOTALLY not in evidence in this thread.

I'm sorry that your post got looked over initially. In order to compile the 6 pdf sheets into one pdf file, you can do one of two things. You can get the trial version of Adobe Acrobat (not Adobe Acrobat Reader) and use it to put the 6 pages into one PDF. Another way to get them into one PDF file is to put them in a Word document and download a free "Print to PDF" application. I recommend PDF995. After installing it on your computer, go to print the Word document, but instead of sending it to the printer, choose PDF995 and press print. Then the print driver will print the files to a PDF.

I'll let someone else answer the other half of that question. I'm not sure if I know the best way to get whatever images you want into photoshop. On my Mac, I just use the Preview app to export the files to PDF, and then import them into Photoshop. I don't know the equivalent for doing this on another OS. I don't know if it would work on Windows, or if putting the file in Word and then printing single pages to pdf would be necessary.

As pointed out, but _totally_ ignored, his creative commons license *ALLOWS* for redistribution, ALTERATION (eg: derivative works) and such. (just make sure you have javascript turned on when you view his page so you can see it!)

"My designs are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution NonCommercial ShareAlike 3.0 License"

No more flames on the merits of the license, or not, but it's posted on his page, and says *IN* his blogs, he wants to see the different designs and have his squirrel travel the world.

"If you're building one of my versions of e, please make some pictures of it in your neighbourhood and send them to me by mail. Include your name, city and country.
I would love to see e travelling around the world."

And on march 8th, he says:

"I will soon post the template of the paper toy, so you can build one of the 440 squirrels yourself!"

For a group that rapid shares everything, and is pretty much "pirate" based, the behavior on this particular instance is beyond bizarre -- unless the few of you who got the template before he left on vacation are just enjoying the fact you can torture those who don't have it for another few days??

In that case, the behavior is well understood, and simply goes back to that "pirate" based A-hole attitude.

Maybe I just don't get it, but this thread is totally off the wall!

The reason I am not opening up my steam squirrel template is because, even though he has practically okayed it in the text you cite, I am extremely nervous about not getting direct response from him to me first. If the guy was an asshole, then I would let loose, but when someone is nice to me, I give them the extra effort to be respectful and thorough. What if he sees my template and says I need to change the position of one of my tags or something?

As for being a pirate, I am. We all are. But the thing is, pirates are honorable to pirates and to those people that show us some decency.

So can I share it? Yes.
Would it be okay to share it? Yes.
Will I feel better about myself and that I did all I could to be respectful of Ringo if I hold off until he gets back? Yes.

So we have to be pirates on the seas too? Sorry. When I said that I was thinking of generally us. In all my days with imageboards and torrents, I have found that the paper-pirate community was as a whole honerable to each other.

pirate not so bold when someone has their email address.
Seriously, posting scanned kits, posting files still currently available on free sites, repeatedly reposting old pirated kits... but one weeaboo suddenly becomes shy when the designer will know who did it if he chooses to be displeased.
Old pirates, bold pirates, but no old bold pirates apparently still holds true.
Weak.

wtf is this, a discussion forum about piracy?
>> Anonymous
>>55812
There's a flaw in this logic: when two people ask for the papercraft by mail, and it gets posted on another site, the how would you know which of the two did it? Or when 10 people asked it, or twenty, or...
Requiring people to e-mail you doesn't help; but many people don't want to give their e-mail to strangers, so instead they get it from another source where you don't have to give your e-mail. It's more like throwing in your own windows: if he would just offer it as download from his site, more people would get it from him instead from elsewhere.
I doubt he did it for this because of possibly piracy though, more because he wanted to know how many people want his papercraft (won't get a nowhere accurate number either of course) there's no absolute way to stop that anyway.

I don't understand why -- "Share alike" means if you make derivatives, you must distribute under the same license, but it's OK to do so!

He said he was on vacation with his squirrel, so he will probably find his mail server crashed when he gets back, and your emails lost anyway.

>> As for being a pirate

I let others answer that. But, the idea is to keep the papercrafts alive, not let them die with out-of-print or limited distribution issues. "piracy" is what they call it, but there should be another word. All those man-hours is lost when a site goes down, or a book goes out of print. What a waste.

>> So can I share it? Yes.
>> Would it be okay to share it? Yes.

If it makes you happy, go for it. But realize how *silly* this is on this board especially :)

Maybe the fact there is an author out there that has OK'd the pattern to post is confusing? <G>

First, being a HFA with severe panic and anxiety problems makes things difficult for me. Secondly, I am giving him a chance to review it for any touch-ups he might want before distribution – I'm trying to maintain a comfort zone and give him the benefit of review so he can approve it.
