OMG DO YOU PEOPLE REALIZE HOW AWESOME IT WOULD BE TO HAVE A PAPERCRAFT COMPUTER?

It could have little paper resistors and stuff, maybe even expansion cards, a little paper CPU and RAM that could slide into the slots, and all in a case that could close! This would truly be awesome, at least for me.

>papercraft computer

for some reason this would truly be stupid, at least for me.

interesting idea, but I think you're alone in the field of people psyched up about it. Looks like you may have to design and build it yourself...

I'm going to have some free time on my hands soon, so I want to take on this /po/ject. What does /po/ suggest for size, color, etc? And how does /po/ feel about an lcd monitor with interchangeable "screens"?

Yeah, I've gotta leave for the night, but here's what I've got so far. Still need input for colors and such... Halp.

I'll check back tomorrow~

Also: How does /po/ suggest I make the case close-able? All of my ideas for this are terrible.

I care! An i would like a Desktop, not a laptop (really just the case, not necessarily the monitor).
And it would be really nice because the chips and stuff could be removable, i think it would be really neat!

progress update. been unusually busy lately, so this will take a while to complete. add to that the fact that i don't know a whole lot about internal components... and yeah. it's gonna be a while, but with /po/'s help, it'll be worth it~
>> usak0

Another little update... been taking on too many side projects lately. The com/po/ter won't be finished until I get 2fort done, so~ you'll have to wait. Gifts for people have priority.

Any tips for how the pci and ram bits should be altered would be great. I'm also thinking about making "screws" to hold things in place. Thoughts?
>> Anonymous
even a lil paper hat : ) (im gay)
>> Ranie
>>189634
I think it would be deadly to make every single bit stand out, it would get too messy in the end.

And for screws, i think the only screws that will actually have a function should be the ones that hold the PCI cards to the case, so that they don't tip. All teh other screws could be little hexagons (representing the tip of each screw) that could be glued where ever a screw should be.
The RAM i think will only be held down by those little clips, although it might be a little tricky to make them movable- but see what you can do!
Also, for the RAM, you should make little thin rectangles that will glue to each side of it, representing those little memory chips on the RAM.
>> Ranie
>>189704
For the CPU, you could just make it a little square that falls in a little shallow hole, or just like the RAM, you could make a smaller little square to glue on top of the chip (Intel chips are like that). For the heat sink and fan, well you could either go mega detailed and actually make each little pieces in the heat sink, but perhaps you should just make it a square with texture. And for the fan, you could make a little square, and then have 4 blades that can rotate on a toothpick (this should be an option if the person making it doesn't want to make it moveable) and then cover them with another box that has a couple of bars on top of it.

For the wires, you could have 2 sides of flat textured paper for each wire(so that when glued it will make one wired thats colored on both sides) and these could slide in into the inside of a little rectangle (and glued on the inside) which would fit into its corresponding socket (like the mother board or the Hard Drive)

As for the details on the motherboard, you should make most of them just textures, although you should look at a real mother board and see which parts stick out a lot, and you should make them pieces that will glue on the mother board.

Also, perhaps you have already done this, but, you should make each piece (Power supply, mother board) not connected to the actual case, so that when building, you build the motherboard outside without bending the case, and then just glue in inside when youre done.
>> usak0
>>189704
>>189705

I'm so glad to get help~ :D Thank you so much.

I'm not sure I've got the skill to even attempt making those little ram clip dealies (I don't even know what the fuck they're called). However... You've got me thinking about it. Mebby Dai will help me with that~ lol

Also, for whatever reason, I didn't even think about making an actual CPU. I just figured I could get away with texturing a box to look like there's a heat sink and a fan, and have it glued straight to the motherboard. :O And I'll tell you now that there's no way in hell I'm going to attempt making a fan like that.

As for the wires: what you said. That's basically what I planned, however, I'm not sure if I'll make them... er... "pluggable," as I don't think they would stay in place well enough, as cool as that would be.

Also, yes. Every object in the last image I posted is separate. Otherwise it would be a massive bitch to build.

Thank you so much for your input~ I appreciate it so much, you have no idea. <3

Nice idea, keep going with the pc. How about a clear side window.

Are you going for modern style case or old. A alienware style case would be good.

As for size, how about different scales. 'Barbie' size right up to full size. Although I woun't be building a full size version. I like the idea of a small'ish case, it would look good with the small consoles that are floating around out there.
>> Anonymous
Please keep going with this. It is A very cool idea, I would love to have A mini replica of my pc on my desk.
>> usak0
>>190012
Was OP's idea, really. I just wanted something
to do~

Ooo... I'll definitely make the side window an
option. Awesome.

As for cases, I wasn't sure what I was going to
do, until you posted this~ I think I'll make a
few modifications to my current models and make
some corners a bit more rounded. I'll try for
an Alienware style, but I might end up making more than one, so people can mix and match and
whatnot.

I like the idea of making different sizes. I'm
doing some test builds of near life size
pieces, and it's a bit difficult. I think I'll
make a simple version that could be any size,
and a harder version that would be better
suited for large models. Thanks for the idea! :)

Still working diligently, guys, but have other
stuff to do. Thanks for the encouragement. <3

I use Metasequoia anyway.

I'd really rather either A) finish myself, or B) give it up completely and put what files I have on rapidshare.

I really really want to finish this. However, it's not on my list of things to worry about right now. So you'll have to wait, or do it yourselves~ <3

Again, I'm sorry /po/.
