ok, something looks off to me in this photo. (just trying to improve my own techniques).

the parts seem to be a bit glossy, the metal actually looks somewhat like metal instead of being a greyish printed color which i'm use too. how to achieve this? photo paper? some glossy spray on protector when done? a better printer?

its a plastic model isn't it? blah, anyone know of a way to achieve a similar look on a paper craft anyway? i'm convinced i've seen similar effects before, though of course i could have just confused it with plastic models again

Photo paper can achieve this effect, but is usually difficult to fold and needs a certain glue.
i suggest printing the full model, and on the parts that require that look print the parts needed on photo paper then use photo glue to apply where needed. i suggest you practice the technique on some scrap paper first to see if it gives you the desired effect.
