Since the dragon papercraft thread was deleted recently, I'm going to start a new thread about it. Here's the opening picture from the last thread. I'll also post the finished head someone posted, as well as a png file of the previous thread.

That was my head picture ^^

Nearly done now, I have to finish the hind quarters and end of the tail and it will be done, so probably sometime tomorrow.

Progress photo attached, and yes I know my blinds don't match the wall, I haven't had time to go look for new ones since I painted :p

Is it difficult?

Here's moar.

Maybe saying I'll be finished with the tail tomorrow was a bit to eager, now looking at 3 more pages of 24 more tightly folded sections makes me think just how much more there is left to do x.x

Hmm... difficult, perhaps. I've put in about 6-8 hours on this now. Personally I don't think it's all that hard, I'm just taking my time and making sure I do it right.

I've been putting it together a bit while I was staying with my boyfriend for a week. From the previous thread, the biggest complaint was with the head. It is by far the hardest part of the dragon to figure out. The 3D model in Pepakura Viewer helps, but I didn't have that in front of me when I last messed with the head, so I gave up on that part for the moment. I've also put part of the body and arms together so far, and they're a lot easier to put together.

Though I would definitely say that if you haven't done a lot of papercraft yet, then get a lot more experience before trying to put this entire dragon together. I think there's a papercraft for just a dragon head on the tamasoft website. It looks a lot like the head on this one. I think it runs about 4 pages, instead of being over 20 pages like this dragon is.

The person who created the template used a solid line, and a dotted line. The dotted lines tend to be used to signify valley folds. Sometimes they seem to be used more for lining up cylindrical pieces than for a valley fold. The solid lines signify a mountain fold.

That's why I finally decided I was just going to do a bit of it at a time. I didn't realize at first that this dragon is large enough that it becomes just about as difficult to finish as the detailed papercrafts that fit on one page.

Some views of the head, for those who can't run Pepakura Viewer on their OS.

What is it about dragon heads that makes them so hard to put together? ;o)

can someone show me where exactly the parts from the atama hide goes?
>> Jennifer
>>31330

If no one else gets to your post first, then I'll probably know that answer in the next day or so when I get around to putting those parts together. Right now, the only advice I can give is to look at the pictures of the completed dragon head that are already in this thread, and try to figure it out from there. Atama hige means head whiskers or head beard, and if I remember correctly, it's laid out pretty close to how it fits on the dragon head. I hope this helps a little until someone can give you a better answer.

Is there a possibility of the template being uploaded again? I kinda missed the last thread.

One thing I'm noticing as I make the first one of these (I'm thinking of possibly making them for Christmas presents next year) is that you'll want to make the pole before doing anything other than the head.

Also, to figure out which pdf file is to a certain part of the dragon, look at the old thread. There's the Japanese in the title of all of those pdf files, and later someone translated the titles into English. I took some more screenshots of each completed 3D version in pepakura, and after I get them from my email account, I'll post them here.

ZOMG! Done!
ok then.. now to give this one away and make one out of special gold and silver paper, at $5 a sheet.

Should i go gold and silver? I mean the dragon was funn to build and all, but i should just move on to the next difficulty lvl model.
So what dose /po/ recomend for my next project?

You could make a white one this time, and just spray paint it gold and silver. You could use frisket film or rubber cement to mask off the areas you don't want to spray a certain color. I think that might work and it's a bit cheaper than the paper you're looking at.

In order to get rubber cement off of something, I think I remember that art gum or some kind of regular eraser works just fine. It's been too many years. It's probably one of those pink erasers that work on it. I wish I could remember the details better. Friskett film is a clear film that's sticky on one side, and smooth on the other. Friskett film kind of reminds me of decals. I'm not certain how easy it might be able to find outside of art and craft stores, or drafting stores. I think hobby lobby carries it, maybe Michael's too, but I don't remember. Again, it's been too many years since I've had a need for using those techniques.

What color are you thinking about making the body, the scales, and the pole this time?

Is it just me or is this one really pixelly and messed-up?
>> Anonymous
>>31706
Yeah, only that page is blurred for me too. Anyone has a better version? Or, since this is just 1 page, is it contained in another pdf?
>> Anonymous
>>31706
holy shit, im the poster and it's blury for me too. sorry.
>> Anonymous
That page is really blurry because of what it says in the original thread. The other 7 multi-page pdf files are the ones necessary for the dragon. If you look closely at the blurriness, I'm pretty sure that it will match one of the pages for the body.

This thread will die sometime today since it has been ten days since I posted it. I'll save the thread from this one and repost the one from the previous thread whenever this one dies officially.

Well, I know the last thread was deleted after 10 days, yet this one is still here. I wonder if it has been extended to 14 days. What have everyone else's observations on thread deletions been recently?
