Where to start? Anonymous
Hey there, /po/!
I am brand new to Papercraft, and I was wondering if you nice folks could link me to some sort of guide that would teach me what paper and tools to use and how to get started :)
>> Anonymous
Hey, Welcome.
Well, its pretty basic. Just make sure to have the following material:
Cardstock (110 lb)
Cutting Mat
Xacto Pen
Scissors.

its basically just printing a model, and cutting, folding, and gluing.

Check some pages back for some good things.

Oh, and b4 THIS IS THE LEUKEMIA OF /po/ posts.

PROTIP: Papercraft actually requires no skill, just patience. You'll be fine.

Cry more faggot.
This isn't /b/

I find that it doesn't actually matter what paper you use. I have made several papercrafts using various types of paper.
I have fount out that QVC generally sell all the tools you need for papercrafting, they sell it during card making programs, try checking it out some time.

BTW, I can use this thread for yet another plug for the papercraft wiki,
>>> http://papercraft.wikidot.com/
At the top bar, click papercraft instructions to learn the basics of papercraft.

The thicker the paper, the more durable and less flimsy it is.
>> Anonymous
>>124486
But it is usually harder to work with and fold. Just a bit.
>> Anonymous
>>124488
Yeah, but it doesn't prevent you from completing anything. Just takes getting used to.
>> Anonymous
>>124485
do you have to have an account to contribute to it? i have A LOT of paper crafts I'd be willing to share if you tell me how.
>> Anonymous
>>124505
Of course not. Anyone can contribute and are encouraged to. To add a new model, don't use the "add new page" at the bottom of the main page. Instead, click either origami or papercraft on the the sidebar and add a new page there. All you need is a picture of the finished model (even this you don't need - we will try to add one later if you don't have one) and more importantly, the pattern or template of the papercraft. If you are submitting a origami, you just need the instructions (a link will do).

When you make the new page, fill in the template page. Anything you don't know, just replace with a question mark. For papercraft, you don't have to complete the instructions, tips or additional images section.

If your template is a picture, upload it using the feature at the very bottom of the page. If your template is a .pdo, .pdf or a .rar, you can either upload it or link to a rapidshare. Look through other models to get an idea of how the pages are done.

how do you post one if it's a pdf? the instructions on the create page thing aren't very clear.
>> Anonymous
>>124530
If the instructions are in a pdf, you can put it in a gallery with a thumbnail like this:
[[gallery]]
: sample.pdf
[[/gallery]]

If you don't need a thumbnail, use this code:
[[file sample.pdf]]

i must be completely retarded or something. I still can't get it to work. do you have to upload it somewhere first or can you do it from where you have it saved on your hard drive? and if so how? i need a better explanation than what you provided. sorry but i didn't get it when i read it like that on the actual create a page box, and i didn't get it this time either.

>>124218
well I posted it to /b/ like you asked, fucktard

Well, if you link to the pdf, you can't have a thumbnail (I assume). Treat it like a hyperlink like this:
[www.papercraft.com/sample.pdf Sample]

If you have the pdf on your computer (or any file or image for that matter) you can upload it at the place shown in the picture. After you upload the pdf file, let's say sample.pdf, edit your page (if you didn't already do this step) to include either:
[[file sample.pdf]]
if you want your file to be a link or:
[[gallery]]
: sample.pdf
[[/gallery]]
if you want your file to be a thumbnail (this will work for images and pdf files only).

You need to write the filename EXACTLY including caps; if you need to check the caps, click the files button and copy and paste the filename into your code.

OK, I'll put some clearer instructions hopefully.

Let's say you want to make a pyramid head page. You have the template in a pdf file on your desktop. This tutorial will teach you how to get it to display as a thumbnail on the wiki page.

>>124724
First create the new page and fill out the information.

Now save and continue and this is what you should see.

>>124726
Upload your file by following the steps as shown.

>>124727
Now your file is uploaded.

Note: don't upload anything larger than 1 MB to help conserve space.

Once you refresh, your thumbnail will appear. OK, you're done!

Thank you. Now I can share all the paper crafts I've collected.

Remember to put TAGS on the pages! It makes finding pages easier.

hey anon, why don't you make that little tutorial there a .gif? then you can just re-up it when this question repeatedly starts popping up. or stick it somewhere on the front page of the site?
