I do a lot of modeling, and I have to build a similar robot like this one for a film.

Any ideas what they've used here?

you can buy green stuff from other specialist outlets, GW overcharges like there's no tomorrow on that stuff. It can be used for miniature scratch building (hell, it's what GWs sculptors use for their originals), but for anything over about 50-80mm scale it's not gonna cut it.

For maquette work, models upto about 12 inches, it's common to use super sculpey, a bake-hardening polymer clay, but it's VERY brittle and weak and couldn't be used for production stuff.

the model in the link uses some kind of modelling putty, probably a 2 part epoxy as it seems to be air drying and sandable. You can get some kinds of epoxy putty from DIY stores, not sure about modelling grade stuff though. Grees Stuff is also an epoxy that has a slight flexibility when it's cured, whereas milluput (DIY putty) is very rigid, though strong too.
