To hold stuff together do I need to use scotch tape or glue stick?

Tape might work, but it won't look as nice.
Glue stick (Pritt stick?) might work, but my own glue stick sometimes lets go after a week or so and that sucks. Your best bet is to use hobby glue (paper glue, Elmer's glue (seems to be a very popular brand in the US), wood glue works as well etc...). Basically any glue you can use to glue two pieces of paper together will work. (dûh..)

I'd suggest Aleene's original Tacky Glue in the bronze bottle... I've been using that instead of Elmer's lately, and I find the hold is superior.

scotch tape looks bad, but if you make some reasonably big papercraft, you can try taping it from the inside. Of course you need glue to finish (or if you can close your papercraft while taping it from the inside, I want to know how)

Elmer's interior wood glue for wet applications, 3M photo album glue stick for general application, Zinco contact cement pen for gluing big parts together on huge flat spans.

Any tips or tricks for joining together two open hemispheres with tabs?

Yamaha papercraft instructions has a good one on that.. Its in the flash tutorial, under practical instructions.. step 3(how to make the front tire)
more or less relevant to two hemispheres

Very, very carefully. If you have a good glue, like the Tacky Glue I suggested earlier, the trick would be to glue a few tabs well, then put barely any glue on the rest of them, try to guide the edges together all at once, then let it dry. It's better to change the order you join things to give you somewhere to reach inside and join the tabs with some sort of tool.

I've been using Testors wood cement... it dries pretty well in about 20 seconds which makes some things that are evil (like heads with crazy hair.........) a lot quicker

I don't know if anyone else uses it though

with more than 6.5 billion people on this planet, I'm sure you're not the only one using Testors wood cement ;o)

I used to use that for the "White wings" airplanes (remember those). It was lighter than alot of other glues I could find then.

I use Zip Dry Paper Glue, its made specifically for paper, comes out kinda like a jell, drys pretty quick (10-20 seconds) and holds strong, Available at your local Michaels Arts and crafts!
