Dear /po/,

Which glue is the best for working with paper? And what kind of paper should I use?

I just finished my first papercraft, the Mudkip and it was kinda fun and relaxing to do. So I think I want to do further papercraft.

Any tips for beginners?

I use regular ol' Elmer's glue. That's probably your best all-around glue you can get.

As for paper, the recommended is usually 110# (lb.) cardstock. You can find about 150-250 sheets at your local office supplies store for about 15 dollars.

Oh, and as for tips, NEVER go in over your head.

I completed about 3 or 4 papercrafts and decided "Alright! Onto Howl's Moving Castle!"

Big big mistake.

Also if you're making a papercraft that has more than 1 page, don't print off all the pages at once. You don't want to get stuck or mess up and then have several wasted pages with wasted ink on them.

I made some mistakes with the head of the mudkip.
It looks like an onion not like a bowl. And the tiny legs where a pain to glue.

I think it takes time to learn how to glue certain parts together so they fit the best.

Yeah. Even though Mudkip looks easy, it was moderately challenging. Mine turned out good.

My favorite glue of all time, is Aleene's Original Tacky Glue. I pretty much grew up with the stuff and it's always been great to me, so I never bothered to try other glues.

About paper.. Most papercraft is made for ISOA4 paper, which is 8.27x11.69 inches. And if you're in the united states, this won't be the easiest size to come across. What I normally do, is go to my local CopyMax and purchase an entire ream of U.S. Legal (8.5x14) cardstock (110lb) and have them cut the entire ream down to ISOA4 (8.3x11.7). It normally costs around 17 dollars for all of it. (13-14 dollars for the ream, 99c each cut. But since they cut the entire ream at a time, it only comes to 2 cuts.) Right, be sure to save the pieces that they cut off, you might just find a use for them.

And tips.. Well, here:

Don't cut everything out at once. You will lose bits and lose track of what you are doing & should be doing next.

BAD IDEA. It dries(hardens) too fast. You should use just your regular white liquid glue. Leave it open for an hour or two the first time you open it. Then it will be nice and tacky, and it will allow for some adjustment while the glue is drying.
