What a timing to revive this, I just finished my repaint of Chamoo's Vivi just now. ;)
It looks more like a 8-bit Black Mage now, apart from the coat and pants instead of a long robe. ;) I'm quite happy with the result.

It's a nice model (the 3D models Chamoo makes look very nice), but some of the parts are quite hard because of the way you need to fold them. Sometimes there's a lot of tension in them, because I think Chamoo deleted a lot of the fold lines for a cleaner look. Most of the time you can get it to work, but some of the ones she deleted are really necessary to fold the parts in the right way, or it doesn't work (especially on the "collar part of the coat).
There also seemed to be missing a few glueing flaps on the part where head and hat meet, so I added those as well. And I added part numbers, because you it's best to do certain parts before other parts or you can't reach it properly anymore.
The files are embedded within the jpg, so open it with WinRar.

Wtf did you do to his hands.

Also, picture is my completed model, ignore the shit on my desk.

Not everybody has the patience/skills, whatever one it is ;) to do papercraft. That's why detailed papercraft with lots of parts aren't always better papercrafts: people like the building, but not the cutting and scoring. It's the most time consuming part. The guy probably got enough of cutting and scoring the folds and made alternative "2D" hands from just strips of paper. ;)
But you guys built this one already: didn't you notice the flaws? (missing fold lines on the "neck part" and the missing flaps on the head/hat) It's okay to give /po/ a heads up about stuff like that you know! ;)

>>44187

44186 here.I didn't really notice. I just noticed how damn frustrating it was to make it. Probably didn't help that I used scissors, regular printer paper, and Elmer's glue to make it either.
>> Anonymous
>>44188
lol maybe it was that frustrating because you weren't folding the parts in the right shape because you didn't have all the fold lines. ;)
I just added those that are REALLY necessary I think (it's not that many really), but you could use a lot more fold lines so certain parts shape even easier (less tension in the paper to frustrate you ;). But more fold lines also means more scoring means more time needed. I actually dislike cutting and scoring, but you know, I have to do it to build the papercraft.........

any that can this vivi skin from Kingdom Hearts
>> chamoo232
I guess I will always have the best looking model because i'mthe one who did the 3d model and decided where to divide the parts so I have a better idea how to build him and in what order. I use one of those yellow worker knife for cutting and white glue and regular paper but one thing that is really good to have is tweezers to go reach incisde and press the glued tabs together at the right spot. as for missing folds and tabs yeah I delete folds to makethe model smoother. I use normal paper so natural paper curving take over. missing tabs... didnt saw anything like that and my model is perfect.
>> Boohoo thessieghost
IMHO, chamoo's getting arrogant and cocky, her paper models are'nt even that good like ghostman or keicraft - they really provide good instructions and very easy to follow
>> Anonymous
if her paper model was not good it wouldnt be on paperkraft.net or kotaku.com
>> thessieghost
boohoo still, have you ever notice why Kotaku always features posts from paperkraft.net, its because that dude that runs paperkraft used to work for gawker media and he is buddies with the editors of kotaku, i know, coz I used to work in the same building as that guy - he was a quiet, rich bastard

I do papercraft for myself with theskills Iknow I will be able to build them. I share my models with other but I never said I was making proffesional models. I dont force anyone to make my models and its peoplelikeyou who make me not want to share my suff anymore and its seriously what im thinking doing. if ur not happy with my models make ur own

Chamoo, I would like to thank you for taking the time and effort to produce this excellent papercraft. And another thanks for sharing it with us. The criticisms that are showing up now, are most likely from users who have never worked in a 3D modelling program, an illustration or vector paint program, and then the always wacky pepakura. I use all of these programs regularly and each of them required a lengthy learning period to use them properly. You crank these models out very quickly too. Don't get tied up with the 4chan whiners, there are many people on this, and other websites that are featuring your Vivi and it has ben met with nothing but accolades.

I still find it funny that everytime a model is released (for free I might add) on this board the comments are always "why didn't you do this color" or "his hat is tilted 1 degree to the left instead of the right". I think your work kicks ass and I know there are many others who agree with me.

Chamoo, keep up your good work.
You are a vital asset to this community.

>>44210well... to be perfectly honest, that's just because it's a game related paper model, they don't really look at quality but that doesn't mean the Vivi papercraft is crap; it just means that at Kotaku, they can't tell the difference between good and "less good" papercraft, and I really doubt they care. They just get tips from people who are all like "YES!! I finally have something game related that isn't on Kotaku yet!!! Let's tell them before somebody else does!!!" and I doubt they try building it to see what it's like before tipping Kotaku (it's a real problem with fan-driven sites; many of them just want to be "famous", have their name on the site with a news article instead of actually delivering quality stuff; and yes, there are exceptions, before you guys start pointing them out ;)

And yes, Chamoo's papercrafts can be hard to build... But if you do manage, you'll have a very nice original papercraft to display! ;)
Most fan-builders create their papercrafts because it doesn't exist yet, and that's the great thing about them. Were they to re-create a professional company's papercraft, I'd probably much rather have the "official" one, but when they make an original one, I'm glad they made one I don't have yet. ;)
>> Anonymous
>>44271
Well, the "criticism" now, as you call it, is from people that actually built the thing and discovered some things chamoo forgot or overlooked in her enthusiasm to finish the papercraft, while all "pls marry me and have my child!!" replies are usually from the people that reply 2 minutes after chamoo releases a new papercraft.

But maybe you're talking about>>44209, I don't know about that person... Seems to be particularly frustrated, but I think he means he dislikes the god-like adoration. Sometimes it is a bit much, but I just ignore it and wait for her new papercraft.

And the requests to "repaint this, alter that" are usually actually from chamoo's biggest fans. Most just say: "you're a god, I love you!!" then download it, put it in their papercraft folder and never build it (or they just say it so chamoo may make their request next). But these people ARE gonna build it, and they want it to be perfect; they want to see something changed because it's such a shame and frustrating when someone releases a great papercraft you can't wait to build, but there's this one thing that you would like to see different for it to be perfect in your eyes........

Speaking of community, I was wondering if there was such a thing as a /po/ IRC place ? I think I read something like that a while ago and thought it'd be nice to have the possibility to discuss models and modeling with members of the /po/lice.

anyone got a chocobo one?

>>44289
Yes, somebody has, but /po/ never found the templates. This may be because there aren't any (one-time build by the guy for just himself) I dunno...
>> rojo
>>44289
I am working on a chocobo. It is in the very early stages. I have the 3d model and am working on converting/reducing he polygons and also converting it to a running pose(I like a bit of 'action' in my models). It wont be done anytime soon, but I will gladly share it here once it is done.
>> Anonymous
im also working on a chocobo, i got the model from someone on /po/ the chocobo was all twisted into wierd angles and in one giant mess, ive pulled all the pieces apart now i just got to put him back together in the right way, then of course paperfy him

>>44527
You should have said "no" and just have him link to your site, instead of directly to your papercrafts...
>> chamoo232
>>44633
I dont see what linking to my website would change. having 1 or 1000 visitor dont change anything
>> Anonymous
>>44638
It would let them see your donations link. ;)
And your other papercrafts. ;)
>> Anonymous
well chamoo isnt doing papercrafts to milk people for donations, shes doing it because she lovesm papercrafts
>> Anonymous
you dont make sense, chamoos post on paperkraft.net is directly going to her site, what difference would that be?
>> Rosethornn
>>44668

Yes, but at the same time, webspace, hosting, etc, aren't free, and I doubt chamoo would turn down the oppurtunity to get more people to see her donate link. :3
>> Anonymous
I'm in the middle of making the Vivi model... The hat I think was the hardest thing so far.. but I haven't even tried the hands and arms yet...
>> Anonymous
Once again, you dont make sense. Chamoos site doesnt have traffic yet coz its new, by linking to paperkraft or other paper model sites that have been online for a while she is given exposure and traffic. paperkraft doesnt store or host chamoos work, the people has to follow the link and end up on chamoos site where all her paper models are. when people get acquainted with her site then they dont need to go to paperkraft anymore coz they will bookmark chamoos site and go there directly. you just dont get it do you? you probably week in the head
>> Anonymous
>>roosethorn

I have to agree with previous poster that linking for other sites will give chamoo more support. nobody wants to donate to somebody they dont know. almost all of us here at po are for the same reason, we want free papercrafts. the more people that see chamoos work the more chance of donation.
>> chamoo232
>>44688
I passed the 2500 visitor and I got 1 donation. sweet by the time I reach 15 000 I migh have enough cash to buy a cartridge of ink and resume work on my current models. and I wouldnt have that much visitor if my models had not been showed on kotaku. it link to paperkraft.net that link to mywebsite. PH on kotaku blew up my bankdwith limit in a single night
>> Anonymous
>>44687
Thát's the point: the post about her Vivi papercraft on paperkraft.net does NOT link to her site, it links directly to the RapidShare, conveniently circumventing Chamoo's site. If it wasn't a RapidShare, but if the papercraft was hosted on her site, that would be called "stealing bandwidth." But if you guys are fine with stuff like that...
(and yes, I know there ís a link to the site itself in the "Paperkraft Team" box at the bottom corner that nobody ever reads since they're just there for the papercrafts in the main posts)
>> Anonymous
you complain too much pal, i checked it out and the Vivi was chamoos post
>> Anonymous
>>44805
I'm not complaining, I'm giving tips. On the one hand you guys are saying: she's happy with kotaku and paperkraft.net because they send lots of traffic to her site, and on the other hand now you're saying on her own post, she herself doesn't re-direct any traffic towards her own site.
So my TIP: if you want traffic to your site, mention the link to the site, not to the RapidShare.
You guys get what I'm trying to say now? It's something everybody knows, you guys as well. Chamoo too I'm sure. So I'm telling you guys and Chamoo what you all already know. But instead of: "hm, you're right. To get more folks to my site, I should change the links" you all much rather enjoy bitching here at me lol. Well, I told you what I think Chamoo could do better, she either does something with these tips to improve her site or not, that's up to her.
As for me, I'll try not to help anymore in the future lol...
