Paper hands what kind of design is superior? Anonymous
/po/ I would like your opinion and advice on how to best design hands for papercraft characters.
There are many ways: 2D flat, just the shape cut out and glued to the 3D arm, 3D with just a thumb and the other four fingers like glued together, 3D each finger seperate, and lots more ways that you may think of.

What do you think is the best way, in a small scale so the end result looks awesome, and yet it is still very easy to make even for papercraft noobs without much patience?

Pic kinda related, he has hands and it's the simplest way of doing them.

...because I think this level is a bit much, so to turn the character this hand belongs to into papercraft form, I could use some advice on how much I should simplify it.

If you want some references, some hands I thought were good designs are the FF6 Terra model which is 3D with a seperate thumb and I haven't built the hands yet but the San-chan hands look like they should be nice. They have a couple layers so it's semi-3D.

2D hands are alright if the model is around 6 inches or so but make them with a little bit of life. Don't just have them stick straight out like the Phoenix Wright ones or the Osaka/Chiyo ones. Miz's Haruhi and the Mari-tan models have a decent use of 2D hands. You could also do the club-hands approach like Miz's Rozen Maiden models or the Sophitia model. Not as preferrable but they sometimes look ok.
