There are hundreds, if not thousands of fixatives you can use to protect your papercrafts, some brand names that I've seen mentioned before: "Krylon #41311 Matte Finish" or "Clearcoat Acrylic Sealer" by Plaid. But there are many, MANY others. Pro tip: go to an art store and ask, tell what it is you want, and the seller will help you make a choice of the many fixatives he has in supply. If you go buy it in a regular department store, they probably sell cheaper stuff there (doesn't always mean it's not just as good!) but you'll need to know what kind of fixative you need because if you ask in a regular department store, the people there will probably know just as much or less even as you... And often they'll just tell you something, thinking you don't know anyway and so they won't look stupid. ;) Anyway, back on topic: Most fixatives will protect against light splashes (but don't go holding your papercraft in a bucket of water) and fading of colors due to air and dust, but not from UV radiation (direct sunlight). There are special UV-lacquers available, but they're more expensive. All colors WILL fade over time if you leave them day in day out in the full sun, it's just a matter of how fast, and that depends on where you leave them and what printer/paper/ink you used. And don't forget: several thin coats, don't try to empty the can as fast as you can... ;)
