Well, they're actually quite detailed and heavy on polys, but if i figure out how to lower them polygons in a pretty way, then yep, I will
>> Anonymous
>>115335
That's not really you "figure out", you just do it. You open the file in a 3D application, and MANUALLY rebuild the model until it's better suited to make into papercraft. When you think you're done, print it out once, build it, then go back and fix the things you overlooked. Rinse and repeat until you find no more flaws (sorry about the bad joke, it's late here...). That way you get very good models, not just a lot of them.
When you're new, start with simple models you like, but not ones that you love. Save those for when you're experienced enough to know that you will be able to make it so that you will like the end result. Nothing's worse than being too enthustiastic (being TOO anything is NEVER good) making your favorite model first but not being good enough yet and ending up feeling bad for having done terrible injustice to your hero...
Use these protips to improve and visit back on /po/ often. ;)

Heh, thanks, I didn't really think of it that way. Guess I'll wait with making the WW Mastersword untill my skillz get better :P

>>115342
Yeah, there's really nothing worse than promising something you can't keep.

Like when I started making FFXI models, I had Goblin, then I started on Mandragora. Someone said "hey can you make a Taru?" and I replied "Yep, sure can".

Turns out the face is extremely detailed, hair is all over the place, ears go through the head, as does a lot of any armor that goes on it. Big mistake to overpromise, I feel bad that I never delivered on that.

arnt these meant to be the life sized ones? i wanted to make some life sized seagulls
>> 16bit !mgZmGyyvq2
>>115579
i didn't make the latest items life-size, as it seemed like people wanted smaller ones, but the Seagull is life-size-ish

also the .pdo's arent passworded so you can just change the size to whatever fits your needs *nods*

Thanks!

I've reduced the polycount on his swords and his pendant, but his head is huge. And he's got a mouth and tongue and everything. I wonder if a mask of his entire head is feasable.
>> Anonymous
any moar like for 1:1 scale like props
>> Anonymous
At that size you would have to choose between Very bland [a small model blown up to xbox hueg] or Very detailed [a model just as finely detailed as the game polygon would take quite a while to build. Many of them have 1000+ faces.]
>> Anonymous
>>115926
how do you go around reducing polycount?

also, i can't seem to get quite how to scale up stuff in SketchUp, so does it matter? can i scale it in Pepakura?
>> Anonymous
>>116152
There is a Scale tool in sketchup, hotkeyed 's'. But you can just as readily zoom in. You can always scale up the unfolded design in Pepakura. If you are trying to scale seperate objects to go together [like a head and a hat] make sure they are the same scale in 3d mode, unless you have an infallible 2d frame of reference.

how'd you screw up with the .pdo and the simplicity of the model?
>> ~
Use Pepakura and view the pdo. Use "Show Edge ID" which shows what tab connects to what edge. Use "Check Corresponding Face" to see which surface edge on the 3D model matches the surface edge on the 2D parts.
