hey /po/ i just ot a can of spray starch(see picture) and i heard that you could use this to stiffen your paper models so they're a lot stronger. is this true?
>> Anonymous
can someone tell me plz? or did i just buy this can of spray starch for nothing?
>> Anonymous
well, I never tried using anything on my papercrafts (mostly because I don't have the money to buy 'em), but I heard a lot of people talking about how they used varnish(sp?) do make their model water-proof nad protect'em from sunlight(in this case you need one with UV protection).
Anyhow, you should try making a simple model and use it to see how it goes, if you're happy with the results congrats

i used the spray starch on this box-art gir.... it didn't turn out so well, it looks ok from afar but up close it looks really... bad. but thanks for your idea.

why it looks bad from close?
maybe this starch is too thick or thin to use on paper(and I assume you aren't using normal prnter paper, because almost anything that touches melts it).

Spray Clearcoat something-or-other, I never really bothered to look at what's written on the can. It's basically a clear spraypaint that's specifically meant for 'crafts'. you can find matte and glossy, and if you're clever you can use the two on the same model in different combinations to emphasize different textures' shiny-levels.

so just buy clear spray paint?

Spray it with canned air.

Krylon makes a seal coat spray. You can find it with all the spray paints at any store like Home Depot or Wal Mart.

should keep this one alive, it's pertinent info for lots of papercrafters out there.

If its a very important model...like my Halo Helmet will be when I get done you can fiberglass it. The link will take you to some forums that have a tut on how to do and what you need. I am working on a pepakura model of Mark VI Helmet. If its not to important try the spray stuff their talking about.

Yeah, I've noticed that most models that I've done with a moderate poly count are sturdy as hell without any help. I've got my recon here, it's ready to be fiberglassed but I'm lazy and only have one coat so far.

well this is the first one that I have done like this the rest of my models are figurines or dumb little things. I found the fiberglass stuff and am going to make this like an actual helmet. I love yours if you have anymore post em
