I'm not happy with this at all... Nonymous
If someone wants the PDO, ask, I don't want to put it up here as I think its crap. His hair is overcomplicated, and I need someone to test it for me, cause I'm no good at making paper craft, just kinda designing it. :/
>> Nonymous
The issues: Hair, knees, elbows, hips (the legs go INTO the hip, defying physics), no textures.
>> Anonymous
There is an awesome amount of potential in this.
>> Ice_Haku
i wanna the PDO...
realy is a overwork in that hair
maybe impossible xD
but post the PDO, if you don´t wanna work more in this, open to the others continue your work =D!
if you wanna continue, only open to we test and help with some tips!

Oh, pics of completed models are TOTALLY welcome too. I could use inspiration to keep going with this.

>>20842the legs go INTO the hip, defying physics

Well of course! That's not defying physics, don't your legs go into your hips and don't your arms go into your shoulders??

It'll be this way with *all* game characters: this is the way they make the arms and legs move in the FF game (and a lot of other games. You guys and girls have to understand, that it's not a matter of step 1: rip the model from the game, step 2: import it in Pepakura, step 3: done!
There's a *huge* step between step 1 and step 2: edit the 3D model so it'll actually be a buildable papercraft: reducing the number of faces, texturing, and in this case also cut up the shoulders and hips and ankles etc and rebuilding them.

The model doesn't seem overly complicated though, the hair might be difficult, but nothing more than that of Sonic and Shadow. It *could* become a great papercraft. But it'll take make than three steps: it'll take at least five.

>>20840
Just took a quick look at the pdo file: what you really need to do is go back to the 3d model. All we can do now is testbuild the seperate parts for you (arms, legs etc.) but what good would that do? They are simple blocks and will be buildable, but the trouble you're having is with how they connect together! And that's a problem in your 3D model, it has nothing to do with Pepakura and thus can't be solved with the PDO file...

Also: I always try to decide for EVERY fold and cut line where it should be, not just one or two: if you let Pepakura sort that stuff out, it'll try to keep the parts joined together as much as possible, which will make a very complicated papercraft...
But since this particular model already consists of many seperate parts, this might not be as necessary.
I do think you should take more control over where to cut and where to fold when it comes to the hair part though: that's the reason why it looks so complicated right now...

And texturing of course, but you know that already. ;o)
>> Paperingman
Oh, lawd, what have I wrought? :D

On second thought, would a Barrett or Tifa be simpler?
>> Anonymous
>>20885
Nope, same problems.
>> Ice_Haku
can you upload the 3D file used to import for pepakura??if you don´t mind, i wanna try to remold to end the "defying physics" problem, and try to simple that hair.
>> Nonymous
>>IceIceBaby ;p What form do you want it in? LWO, OBJ, or some other form? (I have a few selections) I'd send the LGP, but I'm a bit greedy, as they're my virtual action figures :P
>> Nonymous
Oh, and pardon my horrible manners... Thank you for all the advice so far. As for selecting the folds and such... I'd need help with that too... v_v -Lame-
>> Nonymous
LAWLS! I should make a Diamond Weapon pdo. xD

Out of curiosity, what would a Cactuar or Goblin look like?
>> Nonymous
I'll post up examples of Cactuar, Goblin, and Tonberry. (Cloud's Snowboard too cause I found it and I love the pattern)
>> Nonymous

Goblin may need some serious work done to him.
>> Nonymous
     File :-(, x)
However, with a bit of model modifying...

Cactuar looks VERY doable.
>> Ice_Haku
uplaod cactuar xD
>> Nonymous
Warning: Cactuar consists of a LOT of collisions, so you may have to do more cutting than is shown in the PDO.

>> please! Ice_Haku
>>20902
Please i wanna the .OBJ
BUT, IF you upload ALL the others you have
in a pack, i'll give you 79 internets to you!
SO , when you are boring UP all :D. is best ^^!
>> Anonymous
Where is the colors in cactuar uploaded???
Gray is too poor
>> Paperingman
Impressive...

...of course, now I really want a Crash Bandicoot craft. XD
>> Nonymous
Cactuar isn't green because of the model type used, and there aren't any UV coordinates.

Guys, guys, please!
If you want to design a papercraft, UNINSTALL Pepakura and get to work on the 3D model. When that's finished, THEN, and only then!! install Pepukara again and learn how to use it...

It's great that you have all those 3D models and that you can open them up in Pepakura, but if you're serious about this, pick YOUR favourite and focus on that one, or not a single one of them will ever make it to a buildable papercraft...........

>>20971IS meant as serious help, it's advice; so many people find out about a Papakura and they go like "wow, I'm gonna make the best paper model ever so everybody will wanna make me their king!! I'm gonna make this one, because everyone will love that one, and that one, because those that won't love that one will love this one, and I'm also gonna make this one, and this one and that one..."
And two weeks later, they get bored because it's a lot of work and everyone's sad... ;o)

But since you're not falling for that trap: how are you doing on editing the model?
>> Anonymous
>>21073
shut up all crapguys
if you can't do a papermodel best then this
SO shut up, the guy TRIED make a cloud model
if he fail and you don't like, quit here now!!

Not working on it at the moment, but that doesn't mean I'm giving up on it, I just got overly frustrated with it, so I'm taking a break from it for the moment.
>> Anonymous
mmm, how and where are you guys getting the file? I dont know how to use papakura too well, but I can edit/make model and texture from scratch.

So yea, where do you guys get the ripped files and may i find it as a .obj file?
>> rarehunter
>>21124

I could realy use your help, I wan to make some papercraft of American McGee's Alice, I allready have the models and textures (ripped them from the game) but I know practically nothing of 3D moddeling, so if you can help me, we can make several models, like Alice, Cheshire cat, the white rabbit, humpty dumpty, the queen, a whole set of weird chess, the mad hatter, tweedle dee and tweedle dum, Bill the lizzard, the card guards, etc..

So if your'e interested email me at c.albertocer[at]yahoo.com and i send you the files, also tell me what format you want the models, 3DS, obj, etc.
>> rarehunter
I forgot to say that I want you to help me editing the models.

Forgive my bad engrish, I'm from México and I don't speak verry well.

>>21101See what I mean? ;o)

But it's nice to see you're all so enthustiastic about it, I really look forward to seeing some new game character papercrafts, since those are the best. ;o)

I wish I could help, but I have my own projects to work on.

>>21116I take breaks myself too "on a regular basis". It *is* a lot of (sometimes annoying) work. ;o)

American McGee's Alice pepakura sounds like something I could totally get behind. How can I help? :)

I posted this link in another thread, but I don't know if you guys read it. I think this is a very useful link for all of you: http://www.ericksmodels.com/paper/paper.html

It has a tutorial on how to design (Homeworld) paper models, from ripping the model from the game through using Pepakura to make the template.
>> Nonymous
Lessee... I'm using the Cloud model from the FFVII PC LGP file with a few fan-made programs to get them to objs and what have you.

I'll take a Cheshire Cat model (format doesn't really matter, but I'd prefer lwo or obj or 3ds)

And y'know what would help a lot guys? How do I mark places (in a 3d editor) to take out of the model (cutting holes into it) I use milkshape and 3dCanvas.
>> jamis
Could we get a copy of the model your using? I'd love to see it in 3dsmax and compare it to the pdo...

I'm really really interested in this model and would love to help in anyway I can. I know 3d studio max pretty well so if it's just editing mesh's then I'd definitely help... though I don't know my way around the programs your using...

upload to rapidshare de 3d models you have!

sorry for the bad camerafone picture

this whole thing is the big complicated piece on the first page of the pdo file. It'd be nice to have the ears and the hair separate from the head because....
>> jamis
     File :-(, x)
... the hair and ears hardly make any sense at all.

This is the ear on the right hand side of clouds head and it's made of a bunch of really tiny tabs because it's all one big piece.
>> jamis
     File :-(, x)
Being one piece also makes it hard to fill in all the spaces after it's folded... or this hole could be because there is a missing face in the original imported 3d file.

It's still got no way to attach itself to the rest of the pieces but I was also able to complete the waist/hip piece with no problem. I haven't tried any of the others.

oh and also, clouds left ear makes no sense at all....
>> Nonymous
Give me a moment, and I'll upload it because you just earned 3 million internets building that dern thing. My mind dun blowed up!

I'd suggest everyone get themselves a cloud head!
