Now this is where you start to hate yourself, as a person. This is sitting on the line between an art and a skill. If you pull back in the petal, and pinch the bottom together as you attach it, you can get it to kind of fold outwards. Manipulating this how you want can get tricky really quick. Know that you will probably need to make 4 or 5 practice roses before you are good at making them, which is very frustrating. The closer to the center the petal is, the more straight up it is, but be patient, as you use this technique, and the more petals you add, the more the bottom begins to fill out, and it takes on a rose like shape.
Another random tip: it took me a 4 ounce bottle of glue to make a dozen of these. Buy twice as much glue as you need. When a bottle is half empty, just throw it away, you will save yourself a lot of pain and cramps trying to squeeze more glue out of it, especially since you have to squeeze the bottle 2-3 times per petal, up to 50 petals per flower, it really adds up.
