(shapes, not sizes; size can be adjusted through scaling when printing, but if it hugs the face much, other headshapes won't be able to wear it...)

Still working on the new ironman model, should have it wrapped up sometime later this week... I just finished ironing out the tweaks in the helmet & getting the skin applied, now I'm doing the cuts... Should have it up later tomorrow...
As far as sizing goes, it's going to be "one size fits most"... There's no way I can make make enough individual versions to suit everyone, & I've got other models I can't wait to start on... :)

And i can't wait for the full model!!!!

Yeah, I've got a Samus, but she's fairly high-poly... It's on my 'to-do' list once I get her slimmed down... ;)

Wolf
>> Papercrafta Anonymous
I, for one, cannot wait for Samus. Will you be telling us what suit she's going to be wearing?
Zero suit, original basic suit, changed original basic suit or one of the special suits? I am assuming it’s one of the basic suits. I’m also thinking that Wolf's papercraft will be awesome none-the-less.
>> Anonymous
I’m just wondering a few things Wolf -
Did you make her from picture references, your own drawings or ripped the models from the Gamecube game?
Might you be able to tell / email how one would be able to rip a model from a Gamecube game? (There are a few characters that I probably would like to model and make in real life :p)
>> Wolf
The majority of the 3D models I use for papercrafting I get from free download sites, like Turbosquid, 3D Commune, etc... They are all free to use for non-commercial work, & many of the original models are made available for any use you like.
I included several links in the papercrafting links PDF I posted earlier... I also included links to all the software needed to convert them to paper... :)
About the closest I get to 'ripping' game models is converting the formats of models & skins I find on gaming sites...

The samus models I have I got from Turbosquid. They have 3 good ones in the free section, along with her turboball form...

If you don't have any 3D modelling skills: ripping models or getting them from sites like Turbosquid isn't a shortcut per se. It's basically people showing off their 3D modelling skills, making models as detailed and life-like as they can (not entirely true; sometimes you can find some very nice simple models that could indeed be made into very papercrafts) so they usually don't make very good starting points for paper models. And you'll still need at least some basic 3D modelling skills to do a lot of work on the 3D model itself before you should even consider starting up Pepakura.
The final papercraft usually turns out much better, if you make your own 3D model made with just that in mind: to turn it into a papercraft. That way, you can easily avoid overly complicated details and make a fun to build papercraft.
Just my five cents. ;)

Hehe, kinda not what I meant, chamoo. Maybe you and Wolf could forward your models to fansites, though. That would be a nice start.
>> Wolf
Take it from me, getting a C&D & threats of lawsuits from studios is a real nightmare... They like to think in the millions for the smallest stuff... I've seen 'fan artists' get nailed to the point of having thier lives destroyed... Especialy anything having to do with star Wars, Star Trek, or Batman... Ughhh...

I am scouting a few licences though... We'll have to see what they want for licensing fees & royalties...

Wolf
>> Anonymous
>>42066
Also millions perhaps? Thousands at least I think... Would it really be possible to make enough money with paper models to pay the royalty and license fees? Stuff I see here is great because it's free, but I wouldn't pay more than a few bucks for it (actually, to be honest, I wouldn't pay for it at all, I'd go find free models that are just as great/greater...). But let's say I would pay for it: not much...
Like the archer model from 3Dpaper.com, it goes for about $17.50 (minus shipping of course). From the designer's point of view (work time, resources etc...) that might be a very reasonable price, and I think we all agree it's a great model, but most people would never buy it that price.
>> M.

I heard about that regarding Star Wars - I reckon LucasArts is not really on the tender side of things when sending lawyers to knock (down/at) your door.

Wolf! I love the model, but would it be possible to get a version without the numbers on the model?!
The PDO file included is sufficient instruction enough. Just a thought

Have fun guys, I expect pics! ;)
The numbers are all printed on the tabs & off the face, so none will show on the assembled model... :)

Using the pep file, you should be able to turn off the #'s and texture if you want...

Pro tip: don't score all the fold lines.
Many of them are not necessary (they're only there because the basics of 3D modelling is trigonometry). Scoring them will cause the paper to bend/fold where it shouldn't.
>> Anonymous
please can you show us on a picture which ones not to score?
>> Anonymous

I wasn't kidding when I said that most of the folds needn't be there; about half of them (well, I think less than half ;). Too much work for me to point each one out, I hope you can understand... It Could be done in Pepakura (if it wasn't "locked"), but it SHould be done beforehand, on the 3D model.

You see, when you look closely at the 3D model, you can see that the helmet for instance is made of "rectangular" section (parallelograms or whatever) a basic way of making (approximating) globes/spheres in a 3D modelling program. But the original creator of the model was kinda lazy I guess, because they're not perfect: some of them are a little hollow, some of them are like mountains (personally, this is one of the first things I correct in the 3D model, to reduce the number of polygons and so I don't have to put up with all those "fake" fold lines in Pepakura later on).
On each "rectangle", both sets of two opposite sides should be parallel, but they're not, that's what's causing this. Probably got warped during modelling.
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
But the difference is not big, and you'll probably won't notice it when the papercraft is finished; unless you emphasize it by you scoring the folds.

Another example are the "ears" They're basically just flat circles, with a slanted ring around them. On the flat circle, all the fold lines can be removed, since when it's flat, it needn't be folded. With a little extra work on the 3D model, I think it wouldn't have been necessary to remove the center circle from the ring around that and make it two parts. They're basically in the same plane, and could have just been one part, by removing the original parts on the 3D model (circle + flat ring around it) and replacing it with a slightly bigger circle and no ring around it.

Yeah I know, I'm bitching again. It's a very nice model and many people will love building it, and that's really all that matters. But maybe other designers will find some of the tips useful (the main tip being: perfect your 3D model first before starting up Pepakura ;).

I'm not a computer wiz, & I'll never be one... What you see is what you get. I work with what I have or can get, & I make them to make ME happy... If someone else enjoys them, great... Glad I could share. If not... Well... What do you want for nothing? ;)

You gonna post your stuff at 4Chan, you gonna get comments, like it or not. You gonna use the comments to your advantage to improve your future work or not, that's your decision. I think all the comments are valid, but sometimes I get the feeling we're not allowed to say a single word wrong, like we need to be oh so grateful that somebody was oh so good for us to make us a papercraft and people are afraid of upsetting the designer so he may not make new papercrafts, one they want to see in papercraft form. It's nothing less than awesome that new papercrafts spawn from /po/ rather than just requesting and reposting existing papercrafts (I think /po/ is the best board on 4Chan!!) but some people really need to get both feet back on solid ground... /po/ is basically a mix of /r/ for requesting (existing or not) templates, and /ic/ for designers to get critique so they might improve their work, at least that's how I see it. Don't want people to comment on your work, don't let them see it. ;)

>>42158Apparantly some do; it's in the places where there's just not enough room for Pepakura to put the numbers outside the parts so they won't show.

About the Terminator endoskeleton: there's a complete endoskeleton about 1:2 scale, so if you just print the arms twice as big; you're all set!

and yes, from the sound of the remarks they have, and the stuff they'd improve, even telling how they'd improve it, it does sound like anon1 and anon2 have a lot of experience making paper models and can make much better papercrafts than hasty stuff here (no offense ;).
But I don't think your little "reversed psychology" trick is gonna work. ;)
*sigh* I think the model could have been better with more work, but Wolf has been quite clear this model is finished now as far as he's concerned. If you like it, build it, if you don't, don't it's as easy as that. And I quite agree. Just like you can agree with the comments or not. ;)
>> Anonymous
>>42387
If I had to make a model for somebody, and they'd say that take all the time you need, I would be perfecting the model a very long time, and I don't think they'd find the price based on the time I spent resonable anymore... It's best to set a price, then work towards that price.
Making a paper model (a good one) is not something you do in an afternoon, and in the end, 5 bucks is a lot for just a pdf/jpg you have to print and build yourself... and I'd like to make more than 5 bucks an hour (that's less than minimum wage...). But I can't make a good paper model in under an hour...
Maybe in 10 hours, but probably far more, but that'd already be 50 bucks... Phew... I wouldn't pay 50 bucks myself for a paper model...
