The 40k Bolter Anonymous
So, I posted that train the other day looking for a papercraft bolter, and the general consensus is: it doesn't exist.

So, I've started to make one, but I'll require the talents of someone who actually knows how to use Pepakura.

Image contains PDO file, open in Winrar. Made from a Google Sketchup converted to KML4 then imported into PD2.

I just took a quick look;
There seem to be a quite a few red lines on the Pepakura file, which means those edges aren't properly connected in the 3D model. The "join adjacent isolated edges" function in Pepakura doesn't fix them, so they'll need to be fixed in a 3D app: you basically need to delete and re-build the polygons that are adjacent to the edge (and adjacent polygons, otherwise you'll be re-building on flaw vertices and it will still be flaw).

please can somebody fix the edges on this so we can make the model

You can MAKE the model as it is now, but it won't be very good;
You can add glueing flaps manually (but you'll probably miss some or do some double since there'll be so many of them).
But you can't join two parts if they have a red edge in Pepakura. You can add glueing flaps so you can glue them together on the final papercraft, but in many cases it would be better to join the parts together, instead of having seperate parts.
It's like having a cube: you can make it by cutting out 6 squares and adding glueing flaps, but it's better if you connect the 6 squares.

OP here:
For lulz, I downloaded the pro version of Google Sketchup, to export the model in other formats, thinking maybe they'd be friendlier to Pepakura.

No such luck.

The problem is not with the format, but with the 3D model itself: if the polygons aren't connected properly, they're not connected properly. This doesn't change if they're in kmz, obj, 3ds or whatever format I'm afraid...

The newest version of pepakura can handle kmz files

Tried to make a life-size one shortly before summer, stopped when I realized it would most likely collapse under its own weight. See if this can be of help to you : http://jeanthomas.maillioux.free.fr/temp/bolter_test.pdo

probably building it from hard cardstock makes it sturdyer and it won't collapse...
good work with the .pdo!
now we only need texture.
