FF7 - Highwind Urashiman !cfvcNf4hiQ
Good news!
I'm currently working on a Highwind papercraft.
It consists of more than 2000 polygon faces and will be hard to build. Development will be finished next week.
stay tuned!

Good luck and have fun!!
>> Final Fantasy PnP
just from the looks it seems more time consuming than challenging

That's true for all papercraft I think: you can build anything, but it takes lots of time cutting out the pieces, and sometimes a part is difficult and you need to try how it's supposed to fit a few times maybe, but then you can print it out again if you need to. This takes more time again, but after making the right folds, by trying a few times you can always figure out how the part is supposed to go together.

Thats what I meaned with "hard". While developing Macross papercrafts, I build them out of one piece (one big 3D model) at first. But then I realized that there need to be smaller parts that are easy to fold. I put my experience with my earlier works into the Highwind to make it "easy" to build.

Very niiiice, patiently waiting here.

how big will it be IRL?
it looks a bit like it would collapse under it`s own weight if it`s too long.

Here. I did some texture tweaking. This it what it will look like when finished

>>46635

That's why it is still "under development".
If it is going to be to big you need to glue in some reinforcements for the structure, like little wooden sticks or stuff like that.
I wanted to make it about 40cm in length.

After I'm finished with the Highwind I may do the Ragnarok from FF8.
>> chamoo232
>>46636
how did you rip that model?
>> Urashiman !cfvcNf4hiQ
>>46638
I did not rip it. Old fashioned handwork. The only part I ripped was the texture (which was all blurry and dizzy and needed to be rearranged).
the 3dmodel took me 22hours, the Texturing only 3 hours (with UVW mapping).
>> chamoo232
>>46639
nice. you used the high quality model in FF7international cd4 as a reference?
>> Urashiman !cfvcNf4hiQ
>>46640
yes. First I drawed a 3 view scheme of the highwind using photoshop and FF7 International, then 3D Max to 3Drized it (with my low-poly-artist-skills). After this I ripped the textures from the CD but they sucked and I needed to rearrange them. But it helped me going around "drawing textures". (yeah ... I'm lazy)

here. the crappy scheme I drawed.
>> chamoo232
>>46641
it look very nice. when I ripped the texture for Vivi I realised how tiny and bad the psx textures are. vivi had 2 sheets of 256x128. I made those textures 4 time bigger and used the blur tool in photoshop to soften the pixels and then I used the sharpen edges once. the technique I used for both vivi and cerberus is wireframe view. with some epsxe plugin you can make the game wireframe. it help alot seeing how the model is made

Post some pictures of you it when you are done with it. I can't build it because I haven't got enought ink for my printer.

already working on it.

It's a little too small for me to build. I don't like scaling up models because the textures... I am looking at around 300%, or a 600% to 1,000% scale up on this one to make it really managable.

I really appreciate your creating this and sharing – thank you very, very much – I just wonder why so many papercrafts have to be freakishly small.
>> FURY OF THE STORM
This will be an epic model. If I get it made, i'll post pics.

after this will you start making another project?
like ragnarok from FFVIII?

That would be extremely difficult to make not to mention build. but whatever.

erm ... When finished the model is about 40 to 50 cm in length. This is not small. but if you want really want it to be 1m or 80cm I'll do it for you.
>> anon
can somone rapidshare the parts and Instructions? every time I try to DL, it crashes.

Yea! some help here please, it dont work for me to

by "small" I think they mean relatively speaking: some of the parts are quite small to handle, even if the entire model is 40 cm. Just take your time on these small parts, score them well before folding and you'll be able to fold just about anything.

>>47570

that would be great.

Here, nearly 80cm in size when finished!
>> chamoo232
>>47728
80cm? yike thats big. reinforce that with wood sticks and you would almost put real toy motors and make it fly.
>> Urashiman !cfvcNf4hiQ
>>47730
yo! use it as template for a depron flyer with brushless motors, lipo batteries and a gyro system. READY TO FLY! (my brother wants to build one... crazy eh?!?! °_O)

You really need to reinforce the thin parts or it will collapse.

>>47728

Thank you, this makes all put one piece (#15) a decent size. :-D This is the next thing on my build list, right after this 1:1 scale OB1 ANH sabre (now you know why I am pissed off at little pieces :-P).

>>47577

As a general rule, I consider any part too small if it has a polygon with a side under 2mm or is just plain flimsy. I prefer all of my models to have no polygon sides less then 5mm if I can help it. Thick fingers and papercraft do not always get along and tweezers can't get everywhere fingers can due to angles.
>> Anonymous
If you printed it out so it was 160cm, and were really careful cutting it out, you could install the bridge interior too.
>> Urashiman !cfvcNf4hiQ
>>47801

Oh ...
I've build things with polygons about 1mm and my fingers are like big sausages! My thumbs are nearly 3cm in diameter and my fingers about 2cm.
Also I'm a little rough with my moves and stuff. It is not impossible to build such small things. It only needs some patience and time.

Anyway, right now I'm working on the Ragnarok which is pretty hard to prepare because there is not enought info (pictures) about it. Stay tuned.
