1:1 Papercraft Bolter Anonymous
Has anyone made any progress on developing a 1:1 bolter model? We've got Gears of War, even Starcraft 2, but so far no love for this classic.

It'd be great to have on the wall. (Or in a shadowbox with "in case of Tyranids, break glass.")
>> Anonymous
I second this, and if noones done this yet, I'll work on one myself, just gotta get 3d tools first.
>> Anonymous
In case of heresy, break glass.
In case of Tyranids, you're fucked.

This is the best 3D model I can find out there. Looks pretty simple (as in not a lot of faces. I'm sure it's a bitch to actually put together.)

working on this now. Converting the parts that are too small or just too difficult to build into textures. Should be a pretty simple build once I break it down into sections.

Crossing fingers for a 1:1 bolter finally.

I can do 1:1, but does anyone know what size it should be as far as length? I was thinking 30-40 cm.
>> Anonymous
oooh, are you making removable clips for it? yay!
>> Anonymous
>>187559
it was an idea, I was also thinking of maybe making some bullets and A window in the magazine so you can see them. What you guys think? Bad idea? I know this is A pretty far fetched question, but does any body have any pics of what the bullets look like for this gun?
>> Anonymous
>>187560
no, don't make a window fro them.
>> Anonymous
could anyone convert it in a format which metasequoia can read?
then unfolt it in pepakura, tune it a little, and ready!
>> Anonymous
>>187564

What? what for, someone is already working on it.
>> Anonymous
>>187561

That's cool, no window then. I doubt I will do bullets either, although I would like to make maybe a plaque of some type you can put on the wall and hang it up. I could use some reference pics. I don't know what this game this is from I just liked the look of the gun.
>> Anonymous
>>187573
yeah, no bullets is fine, after all, you don't see the bullets in a clip anyways. Just at least try to make removable clips.
>> Anonymous

I was doing some searches to find reference material for A stand or plaque and noticed a lot of different colored bolters. Which is the right one, or are there multiple? I saw blue, red, black, and yellow.

editing done for the most part, just need to unfold. Don't think I'm going to do a removable clip, don't really see the need for one(although it would make a pretty good stash spot ^_^) I suppose if enough people want one I'll do one. I'll get started on the shadow box tomorrow.

OP here.

Looks like you're doing a great job with it.

Sometimes the power of /po/ amazes me.
>> Anonymous
Well, shadowbox is A bust, it would just end up being spread across too many pages and wouldn't really look very good being cut up that much, not only that it would use up waaaay too much ink. I figure it would look better to actually use a wooden shadowbox anyway. Should have this thing unfolded by the end of the day.

Alright I decided to do a shadowbox anyway, I'm going to try to break it up like a real picture frame would be made. Just wanted to make sure /po/ likes before I continue with the rest of it.
>> Anonymous
er...

When I mentioned a shadowbox, I meant building one out of wood or metal.

I don't think people would want it for the actual model.

It's cool, the shadow box will be A seperate file so you don't have to build it if you don't want to. Unfolding started on the shadow box, I should have both done by tonight tomorrow at the latest.

Shadow box unfolding done. Ended up being 22 pages, not too bad. I had finished unfolding this once already and realized I didn't model in the pegs for the gun to sit on, so I had to go back and put them in then unfold again, oh well I was able to organize it better the second time around.

Probably a bit late but I know the 3rd Ed. rulebook had cutaway diagrams of the various types of bolter rounds, they probably kept it in there somewhere for 4th or even 5th. It's been a while but I seem to remember that they are not really bullets more like 0.75" diameter rockets. Anyway by the time it scaled properly (for a marine) you'll probably be able to get 3 fingers on the trigger at once.

Either way good work.
>> Theslasher99
from reading some of the books, a bolter pistol alone is as long as a normal humans entire forearm, so a regular bolter would be a bit bigger than that.

Weirdly enough i was searching for pictures of ronans gun from stargate atlantis (for my next project) and stumbled upon some pictures that might help you guys out, one is attached which should show you what the scaling should look like. the rest of the photos are located here : http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=88200837&albu

wow, that's A big freakin gun. I don't think I'm going to be making it that big. If anyone wants to make one in true 1:1 scale you will have the pdo and can give it a shot. The pic scaled roughly twice the length as my arm from fingertip to elbow, which is what it looks like in the picture. Even the clip is larger than one sheet of paper, so yeah it might be a little too big for paper. So let just say that this one will be 1:2 scale.

still working on unfolding the handle. It has too many curves I think, I might end up having to remodel it. I also ended up modeling a few rounds to go in the shadow box.

Alright guys, here it is. Everything looks like A pretty easy build except for the handle, it looks like a pain in the ass but buildable. If anyone wants the model file to improve on the handle let me know and I'll up it. I put a small slit in the top and bottom of the upper piece for the shadowbox so you can slip in some kind of clear material(acetate, mylar, etc) Enjoy
I might do A true 1:1 version in the near future.

Sweet, great job. I'm about to start loading paper into my printer.

I was going to build the one in
>>187854
But it has a number of akward bits that need fixing, your's looks fine. The handle might be tricky, but I'm always up for a challenge.

I thought this was 1:1. How big is it?

About 25cm high it seems.
All the bigger parts fit onto an A4 without joints.

Saved from page 10.

Also I just realised that while massively oversided automatic rocket firing guns are cool, so are more human sized rocket firing pistols. You know you want to wave it around shouting "FOR THE EMPEROR!!".

A bolt pistol would be kickass.

So has anyone built this yet? I'd like to see how the shadow box turned out, I ran out of ink when I went to test build it before releasing.
