NES Controller Pepa Craft
I made this controller from a reference pic, but it didn't have measurements. If anybody has an NES controller, could they measure theirs? And if the hardcore fans out there want it to be almost exact, the height of the buttons, distances from the sides and measurements of the buttons.
If /po/ doesn't mind the semi-pixelated NES controller skin, I'll start PepaKura-ing it and making instructions.

Are you sure it's 4 3/4 X 2 X 5/8? The height looks awfully thick...

Sorry for the shitty grayscale scan. Works for measurements I hope.

your 3d model looks nice, are the buttons working?
>> Pepa Craft
Thx, I am fixing the model as we speak.
I will ask something though. By a show of people, who wants s version that would also work (pushing the buttons)
>> Pepa Craft
... And if there is anyone willing to post a higher-res photo of the NES from all sides to be able to get a true looking NES.

Nicely done! Tim, you sir have yourself a piece of history
I actually meant to put NES Controller, but that's OK
I am concentrating on this more than my other projects and will get it done as soon as it is finished. If no one objects, I shall start making this into a papercraft. Objections may arise from no wire control, the line on the side that has the two halves of the controller, or the bottom stuff that has the model number and etc.
I have attached another photo that is to the right scale. The other sides have the same colour as the border.
I shall start on the actual NES while waiting to see if anybody has any problems.

... And the accompanying photo -_-;
>> NES Pepa Craft
     File :-(, x)
This is what I've done so far. I don't know what Tim means by across from the controller ports, from the black box? or from the first port? lol
And for the LED. If this were to be done to scale, then that would be one tiny LED. Then again if it is half the size (to fit in a small space and to look 'cute') it may be very... small, might be the thickness of the cardstock lol
>> Pepa Craft
(the buttons do not work on the NES controller. may release two versions)

Awesome~

lol, um ... Tim?
>> Tim

do you still want the pics of the controller?
>> Pepa Craft
I think I'll be leaving the bottom and sides a gray colour, unless u wish to take pics of eah side, I shall then make another version, if not it's ok. It's up to you if you want to scan it
I was asking about the NES measurements. About the button placement, if you could give how far the far right button is from the left edge of the black square where the ports are, or from the left side of the NES is to where the LED starts.

Please and thanks!
>> Pepa Craft
If you were to take a hi-res (or good quality) picture of the front, that would Very much help the face as it looks quite crummy as you probably can see. When i printed it out, the Nintendo on the face blurred to a line, the A and B are blurry blobs, but the start and select are legible, yet blurry. Also a good improvement wold be the sides. I have taken pics of how to make it, but they would still apply to my papercraft if i were to add your pics as textures :)

:p this might be too much to ask, but from all sides and the front?, but with the sides evenly lit up, if theres a flash, then there's a bright spot

Looks good, minus the label. Hope this one helps, it's 300 DPI, sorry for the not-so-perfect condition. and I made it as straight/even as I could.

If you need it, I found a cleaner template
>> :o Pepa Craft

This is what I've done so far. I used the clean template because other ones had some stuff on the controller lol (brownish stuff). I am going to add the textures to the sides and top now.

Does /po/ think that a paper wire would be good to add? It may be a hassle to make the wire as it would bend.
And how about the wire porty thingy, what do you think would be good for it? it would be a pain to make that indent on the papercraft, should i just make the indent with the middle black - but just a picture of it, not actual.
>> Anonymous
A wire might be a bad idea. I would just leave an indent or a black spot where it should be. If it doesn't look right in the end though, I would just forget about the thing and make the whole side a flat grey

This is the best i could do with my photoshop skills :p

>stuff on the controller lol (brownish stuff)

Yea, that kind of happens after 21~ years of constant use. I've kept it as clean as I could keep it.

It's looking nice though, can't wait until it's released.
>> Anonymous
Black yarn might be able to take the place of the wire. It could be put inside and knotted before gluing the papercraft together. The people that make it would only need to make a hole with something sharp and pointy.

The Baby Chao papercraft uses a similar method with string, but none of it is visible. It's a more durable method to keep the emerald on the head and tail than just gluing alone.

If someone wants to get really technical, then we can measure how long the wire is from the controller to the plug in, and make the papercraft actually able to plug into the NES counterpart. That would take a bit more work and a lot more thinking ahead, so it's really whether anyone wants to deal with that or not.

Good luck to all of you.
>> Pepa Craft
Yes, in fact i have thought ahead :)
Thats why I was waiting for Tim to ask him how big the controller plug part is (dimensions).
Thing is that the end result will take more than just paper :p
I also may release the controller first, but then the controller with the plug may not be to scale :p I also have to iron a few kinks out in the design with the controller-to-NES connectivity

Tim, if you are there, can you please clarify the button placement on the NES? like from the left of the NES to the starting of the LED? then i can start doing things.

Also if people want one that can take an NES cartridge... ;) (which was the other thing that I was thinking about) I'll do that as well. I'm pretty sure that you guys dont want the thing to plug into a wall lol so I wont do that, or the video cable :p

Can anyone measure a controller port?
>> Pepa Craft
Also since this is the start of my modelling, I am trying to get the other stuff ( putting into PDF ) all nice and formatted so that I can use it whenever I want. That part has taken time, and I'm not quite satisfied as how it will end up.
>> Tim
     File :-(, x)
i scanned it, thought it would be easier
>> Jen
I really should get around to making and diagramming all of those measurements for the controller plug for you. I hope that I do it when I'm not on the computer working on Metal Sonic.
