I've been playing with reboot models in sketchup... and now I'm wondering how I can get them into pepakura, and where I can get something like pepakura free... since I'm a poor college student. So far I have a cute little null with a decent texture. The rest are obviously more complicated and take longer.

link to models please. also the newest version of pepakura can handle .kmz files(google earth files)

what file format is the model?
i use is milkshape it supports an amazing range of files(http://chumbalum.swissquake.ch/index.html)
i export model as either as .3ds or .obj

Then load model in pepeakura i've had some models just open w/ textures if not you can easily place the textures. (usually a .bmp file)

Pro tip: my rule of thumb is if you want something that means someone else wants it... therefore it is on the internet you just need to look harder.

sketchup can export to .3ds, but adds in another line frame. in fact the only format I think that works well for it in terms of exporting is .kmz files.

Can I get a test build? (Sorry, I don't yet know how to change where the tabs & breaks are in pepakura, so it looks rather unintuitive for assembly)

The first thing I would recommend is that before you click Unfold, uncheck the Auto function first. This will allow for you to change a few features like whether it's on A4 or US letter paper, the line width, and the size for the finished model. Once you're done specifying these perameters, go ahead and unfold the model. From there, you can edit the unfolded model that's shown on the right side of the screen. The functions that I've used the most often are the Move, Join/Split, and Rotate options. Move is self explanatory, and it's also the default, so the others will require more information. On the side of the project with the unfolded model, right click and a menu should appear.
In addition to move, there should be the Split and Join feature along with a Rotate feature. The split/join one allows you to click on fold lines and split the piece of the model there if you want it to, and to join the model along fold lines as well if you want it to. When you use rotate, a bunch of red circles show up. Choose one that you want to rotate the rest of the piece around. Then after that you can rotate the piece.

I'm saying all of this from memory, so I hope it makes sense. I've been directed to a torrent of Sketchup before that came with a keygen that worked quite nicely. I'll see if I can find it. If I still have the .torrent file, I'll upload it to rapidshare, since I don't remember what the original url for it was. I've had keygen hacks of Pepakura Designer work in the past as well, but something's wrong with the one I have on the Windows comp right now, and I haven't gotten around to downloading it again. So for now, I'm working on the trial version of pepakura designer.
