Don't worry about size; things can be scaled down easily, up with a bit more work.

If all the parts end up on one sheet (very possible, considering it's a cube), one sheet sounds good. If it's multiple parts, one sheet still works; someone who wants it bigger can simply split the pieces up over multiple pages and carefully scale up.

Scaling up usually works well, but if you design a papercraft to be big, as accurate as possible with lots of details, you can't really scale it down very well, or else the individual parts will end up too small to handle.
And besides, lurking on /po/ basically since it was first formed, reading the type of comments and seeing finished picturesof the types of papercrafts that most /po/eple like to build, has led me to believe that most /po/eple are way too impatient to cut out, score, fold and glue together more than one 1-5 pages of parts. All the complex, 10+ page papercrafts get downloaded a lot, but it's the small 1-2 page papercrafts that actually get built a lot on /po/.

I fucking failed at the side pieces, so didn't bother attempting the corner ones. So it's just a boring cube. And I forgot to print it on decent paper, so it's flimsy as fuck.

What about his too young?

Seriously, not wanna bash anyone, but I wouldn't bother making what's been shown so far in the thread, because it's far too simple and flat. I'm no designer for shit, but from being on /po/ for a year even I can see it's not hard giving out the complete awesome cube, as in the layout.

In the entire game you never interact with anyone else other then the A.I. The cube is given to you to be your companion for the entirety of the level, at the end it must be incinerated.
>> Anonymous
>>93995
Its the Companion Cube which isnt destroyed when you walk through force fields that would normaly destroy objects that your carrying with you.

You use it to go up elevations and to suppress switches that require weight.

You would have to play the game to understand why it rocks so much.

>> ichi
     File :-(, x)
>>94068
If you're using thicker paper for this, i'd advise cutting the tabs off entirely (except for the tab i highlighted). It's just too small to work with and ends up looking dodgy with tabs. Just apply glue to the edges and stick it on that way, you'll need to prod it a bit with a toothpick to get it to line up with the guide on the box and maybe apply some more glue.

lightly (!) cut where i marked in blue, you'll need to fold there.

Im creating a model, will it be off any help?
>> Anonymous
>>94123
Of course, but if you're making it purely to make it into a papercraft, try not to think of it as "it has to look good with lots of details".
The more nooks and crannies you make, the more difficult it will be to 1) make it into a paper model 2) to build the final paper model.
Unless you want to make it very big, like 3 ft by 3ft, then the way it is now will look very nice and since it's big anyway, the parts won't be a problem.
Otherwise, I would try and loose some of the detail and work with the textures to create the illusion of most of the small detail.
>> Anonymous
>>93885
Not bad...

The heart part needs to stick out more, if someone ones to tweak that. These are definitely looking better, though

>> Cancer that is killing /g/ !zkraGArAss
>>94372
No then you would destroy the textures, unless you planned on painting it yourself.
>> Anonymous
I printed the corners on one 8.5x11 and the actual cube on another.

I'm beginning to suspect that the printer didn't keep with the scale on the cube.
>> Cancer that is killing /g/ !zkraGArAss
>>94377
I scaled the whole template to 70% and printed as many parts as I could on each sheet of paper. I ended up using eight peices of paper and the cube stands about five inches tall. I wrote my own instructions on how to fit the peices back together. Sculpting the extra parts now...
>> Anonymous
>>94376

not necessarily it would just depend on how much you wanted to scale by, if people are asking for different sizes that are within a certain scope then it isn't unreasonable to use the scale development tool.

Does anyone have any tips on making the corners?
(I've read all the posts here)

I've got all the pieces I need printed and I have the main body of a 6 inch (15 mm) cube done.

The corners are really messing me up. I've made 2 bad corners already -_- (I'm semi-new at this).

Here's a graphic of what I've been trying to do.

Main problem is that curve for the large piece. When I fold it all the curve goes the wrong way unless I distort.

Also, is there a good way I should be attaching these pieces to the cube? Thanks.
>> Anonymous
>>94606
It's exactly as you say: you can't really make that curve without distorting, it's a flaw in the papercraft, and the only way to fix it during the build, is to distort it until you're satisfied with it.
>> Anonymous
>>94610
which is really why we need a hero to fix it

>>94613
You /po/eple need an hero for that..?
Just fold the curved parts straight instead of curved, then take a felt to color the exposed white parts grey, or do that in MS Paint before printing it.
