OP here, it may or may not be complete. A little less than a month ago it was brought up and someone promised to work on it and announced near completion of the torso and promised to post an update the next day. I was without internets for a few weeks though and the thread is gone so i'm wondering what happened. I'll repost some of the other images from that thread that were being used to make it though just in case anyone wants to have a go at making one.

OP here of the original thread

You haven't missed anything. Someone said it was being worked on but no updates past the torso thing. And considering there was no proof posted of anything actually being worked on I'd have to assume it was a joke.

I personally am shocked there isn't a japanese magazine or something out there with a Canti papercraft in it. The figurine is hard enough to get.

Yeah well that's because apparently FLCL wasn't actually very popular in Japan which is kind of strange considering.

bump for someone to actually make one then

Oddly enough, that doesn't surprise me too much. I love the series, because it reminds me of some of the ways that I tend to draw, and I still find it interesting that the animators found a way to do the different styles in both the book and the TV series and make them work. The style changes in the book based on what the mood is, or how much action is taking place.

Enough about what I enjoy about it. I don't think it did well in Japan because it was an anime and manga created by studio Gainax. It wasn't like most series where the manga gets some time to build up a following before someone comes along and decides to make it into an anime. Azumanga Daioh was available as a manga for years in Japan before becoming an anime series. It was even in an English translation online for years. My boyfriend knew about it back in high school, or so he claims.

In the USA, it's pretty common for the anime and manga to be released simultaneously, so it was pretty much business as usual here.

This is probably the dumbest statement I have ever heard. It was not sucessful because it was made by one of the most popular animation studios in japan. Just so you know, plenty of anime is produced before the manga. NGE for instance.

It was also created after a bunch of fans got angry at Gainax for the Evangelion movies. I don't know how many otaku are still have hurt feelings from Gainax over it.

Honestly, I was just trying to bump the thread, and apparently it worked, since two people responded since the last post. Apparently it's not a good idea to say much in this thread except some version of the word bump. I will try to remember this in future endeavors.

Thank you for your time.

needs moar papercraft and less jibba jabba

yes. More canti and less ridiculous opinion possibly taken from wikipedia, the source of much mis-information. The japanese people i know, whilst remarkably short, love FLCL but it is a remarkably old series. teste-burger.

yo bad it got rushed...they were a month over the dead line when they finished it up. Its probably because of the manga thing...Seriously >.> and btw this info came straight from the DVD *is a hardcore FLCL fan* but enough ramblings and more papercraft =O

still no one willing to work on a Canti papercraft?

You have to remember though, FLCL was an OVA, and since it was not origionally intended for network tv, deadlines don't really matter. This combined with Anno-san's famous drunk-eight-year-old work ethic leads me to believe that no one was surprized when deadlines were not met.
