Good evening /po/

I know this is proberly the incorrect place to come to first, but i know how useful you guys are when it comes to papercraft so id rather see you then google it first.

Here i have a 3D model i want to realise in papercraft. How does one transfer this file (maya format) into a papercraft print out?

Programs, file formates needed etc would be highly appriated :)

Easy, export to 3ds
Import with pepakura to paperize it

ugh :\ without sounding too retarded, is there a way to export maya scenes .mds objects into a 3ds file format? i cant find it on the save scene OR export menus x-x!

and is there a way to keep the textures of the maya models intact when going from maya to sketchup to edit them?

well, 3ds is the most used transit format between 3d apps, sketchup and Pepakura

but in reality Pepa can import a shit load of other formats
kmz
kml
obj
lwo
dxf
6kj
6kt
mqo
stl

pick one, and erm, well, if you export textures it should come along for the ride to pepa, with or without a stop in Sketchup ( personally i use kmz to export because that is what the free version can do.)

Actually, 3ds causes a lot of people problems with the textures...
Using Metasequoia (mqo format) I never encountered any problems for use with Pepakura, but it's not a very popular/well known format...

OP here~ thanks again for your help, i managed to export them as ab .OBJ file from maya, then converted that into a .3ds file in milkshape, and then into pepakura.

Thanks alot /po/ you never fail to deliver, all i need to do now is simply the original model down abit lol :P

you could have just open the obj file in pepakura, would have saved you a step ;)
