Hey /po/. Thought I'd stop by and say I was back from the dead (a year and a half later).

If anyone cares, I'm more than willing to start updating and maintaining the papercraft database I made back then still.

Just cleaned it up a little: http://www.plus4chan.org

tl;dr ignore this post.

Oh yay! Welcome back! Unfortunately a year and a half ago outdates my existance on this forum, so I must ask, did you yourself design any models?

It'll be good to update, especially with common papercrafts. Such as this one.

Only this one, and under a different name.

And yeah, obviously going to have a lot of crap to go through. Not sure where to start.

Has anyone uploaded a large collection of their papercrafts that I can sort through?

Um, I could have sworn KidIron used to have his stuff on rapidsearch. Nevertheless, one of his most famous models, Emorock, is in the 4chan/2chan collection (rapidsearch for kidiron).

Pixel-Kakashi has a few Pokemon models in a pack.

I'm sure there's at least one more I'm missing, can't think of what.

>>103671
Also, if you're talking about just one person dumping their entire folder of collections into one rar and uploading it, many people said they were going to, possibly under a torrent, but I don't think anyone ever did.

There is also a "beginner's pack" out there that contains quite a few papercrafts.

Awesome, found all of those on rapidsearch. I'll go through the crap in the database already and get rid of the shittier/irrelevant ones, and upload these.

When I died, I was just about to post a torrent of all the papercraft. I'll make a torrent and not die this time.

Chrono-fox put his full collection on rapidsearch.

>>103676
THAT was it! I was thinking KidIron, but it was Chrono fox.

Saw that one, but it's dead. Huge, too. Bummer.

I've got to go for a bit. Back in a few hours.

Yikes. Plus4chan coming back? That... would be awesome.

PLEASE add a papercraft tutorial to the page so that we can send the 40+ posters a month that ask what paper or glue to use to read that tutorial.
>> Chrono-fox
Ah, so people want that?
I'll upload again very soon.
>> Anonex !xxhIOJlWJ6
>>103698
You find/write it, I'll post it.

What kind of paper do I use?
And what kind of glue works well?
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question.
>>103811
Not even funny. Not in the least.

Right now, Anonex, there's a divide as to exactly what paper to use, but pretty much everybody agrees that white glue used extra-sparingly works well, and Aleene's Tacky Glue seems to be even better.

Link over to the tutorials at http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/global/entertainment/papercraft/howto/index.html and http://cp.c-ij.com/english/3D-papercraft/help/tips.html

My opinion on paper... use standard printer paper for most jobs; if the figure is to be wearable, use cardstock. Be ready to touch up edges on cardstock with felt-tip markers or colored pencils if the figure has a lot of open edges -- the white edges detract from the finished products.
>> IHateBrownies
>>103814

sure, if you like flimsy often nasty looking models.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question.

Some models do end up too flimsy with standard paper, true. There's a fine balance between where you need to stay with copy paper and when you need to switch over to cardstock.

Must I remind /po/, though, of what happens when you use cardstock on something it really shouldn't have been used on?

agreed. for you u.s. guys just go to wal-mart and buy 110 lb. cardstock.
not sure what the metric equivalent is...slipped my mind I guess.
it's sturdy, but not so thick that it's impossible to score and fold.
MUCH sturdier than printer paper that is...I learned that lesson the hard way with the inner brain eva 01. my first attempt was printer paper and it was riddled with crinkled areas from trying to curl the paper to form fit.
my second time through is going great. it's sturdy and the paper curls like a charm.
pic very related, alhough I really need to finish it :(

>> Anonex !xxhIOJlWJ6
I updated the site with Tutorials and Submit sections, and threw up a tiny temporary recommended materials tutorial.
If someone actually writes a real one, I'll put it up with due credit, otherwise I'll just add advice as it comes in.

Sometimes, cardstock is too thick AND paper is too thin; gluing a second layer of paper and allowing drying time can help out.

For any large (5 pages or more) models, go for the cardstock. Three to five pages, double paper. 1 to 3 pages, straight paper.

Hopefully the origami that gets posted from time to time will all end up here. God knows its not posted often enough and so when something rare and awesome gets posted we can go there to find it.
>> AnonymousCat !!6TJwahn8wU3
I think a general scale and guide over the most popular paper types would be good, let's not argue over which one suggested paper weight gets written in the guide.
>> AnonymousCat !!6TJwahn8wU3
Also if possible :D

A Hall of Fame image gallery to the best creations, and Hall of Shame
>> Anonex !xxhIOJlWJ6
I updated everything from the 4chan/2chan pack, and added an RSS feed for update notifications.
http://plus4chan.org/papercraft/papercraft.php?q=4chan

Also, if anyone wants to take the time to submit a papercraft or two occasionally, it'd be a huge help to me.

>>103840
Like I said, someone writes something, I'll throw it up.

Would the halls of fame/shame be actually used? /po/ seems like a relatively slow board. Isn't here a better place to do that?

>>103832
There is something called coverstock, it's between cardstock and regular paper (I think its like 50)

I personally haven't tried it, because inkjet paper has worked for me. (It's slightly heaver than regular paper, doesn't get that wet ink paper ripple on large color area when I print)
>> Anonex !xxhIOJlWJ6
- Updated another 65 papercrafts.

- ADDED A TORRENT OF THE DATABASE.
http://www.deadfrog.us/index.php?act=entry&id=10104
http://plus4chan.org/papercraft/torrent.php

190 papercraft entries in the database now.

I'll update the torrent once a month, provided there's actually stuff to update.

There is no origami. I wish to fix this. What should I do diagrams for of my models?
>> Anonex !xxhIOJlWJ6
>>104467
You can either:
- Email me a link to a page/rapidshit with a bunch of relevant origami, and I'll slowly but surely add them to the database myself,

Or:
- Be awesome and follow the instructions here:
http://plus4chan.org/papercraft/submit.php
>> A.r. !!1J3JRobqN2a
>>104468
I was thinking of doing the latter with one of my models. I think one of my Pokemon would be the most relevant. Which one would you all like to see: Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff, Mew, Mudkip (though this would involve a bit of work for me), Togepi, or Eevee/Espeon/Umbreon? I also created a Chikorita, though I'm already doing diagrams for it for the Origami Forum's Christmas book.

>>103832Sometimes, cardstock is too thick AND paper is too thin; gluing a second layer of paper and allowing drying time can help out.
Normal paper: 80 gsm (or 45 lbs).
Gluing a second layer of paper: 2x80 gsm=160 gsm (or 2x45 lbs=90 lbs).
Why not just use 160 gsm (or 90 lbs) cardstock? Why run the risk of using the wrong kind of glue that's not "elastic" enough so that when you try to curve/fold/bend your two paper sheets glued together, you can't really without messing up?
It all comes from the same paper factory/supplier: the store where you get your regular printer paper can also get other paperweights for you if you ask them.

>>104645
I just use coverstock, normal paper is 80, cardstock is around 200 and this is only I think 168. It works nicely.
