Introducing
/CRAFT/
The first 4chan board dedicated to the
renaissance that is occurring within the world of crafts.
Celebrating the DIY spirit, CRAFT's goal is to unite,
inspire, inform and entertain a growing community
of highly imaginative and resourceful people who are
transforming traditional art and crafts with unconventional,
unexpected and even renegade techniques, materials and
tools; people who undertake amazing crafting projects in
their homes and communities.

Just wanted to add this to the tread:

"I just want to say that I support the creation of a image board just for non-paper crafts. [like silk-screening, knitting, sculpture, etc]

I don't feel that I have to state that crafting in the wider sense [meaning: bigger that pepakura] has undergone a renaissance over the past 8 years. Now with events like Maker Faire and publications like craft magizine, it seems that the younger generations has taken the old-time skills from their elders and infused them with a style and purpose that we can relate with. No longer is it all crocheted drink cozies and mittens, but more Crocheted 1-Up Mushroom Scarfs and [Do I really have to say it?] sewn plush companion cubes.

As we've all seen over the past few months, there has been a multitude of non-papercrafting posts and threads made in this board. I think that the conception of a /craft/ would help redirect that creativity to its proper place among others that are also taking part in this resurgence of homespun invention.

Please Moot, make it happen!"

I think a non-paper craft board is a good idea. I love things like instructables.com and a 4chan board would be a great place to talk about stuff like that.

I think it would be great to have a board for everything DIY/crafts related.

I believe that /craft/ would be a very interesting board to have in 4chan. Since /po/ is only about papercraft and /ic/, despite being an art board, it's solely about painting, such a board could come in handy...

A craft board would be great. Clay, metal, wood, cloth, etc.

Must admit i lol'd haughtily when i read "renegade techniques".
>> zel
i concur!
also, should stencils go to /craft/? i mean, it *can* be used for crafting purposes...

so, is it /cr/, /ct/, etc?
>> Anonymous

I'd say /cr/, so people can make "flush the /cr/apper" banners when that forum gets flooded

from the faqs:
-----------------------------------------
What is a trial board?

Trial boards are added every now and then to broaden the scope of the website. We open new trial boards as resources permit, based on requests from the userbase. If a board does not perform well, it is removed to make way for others. A board's trial status is denoted by its name appearing italicized on the navigation menu.

-----------------------------------------
Can you add "x" board?

Short answer: no. Long answer: maybe. Boards are added only if we believe there is enough interest to drive quality traffic to them. Presently, there aren't enough available resources to allow the addition of new trial boards.

[15:3] Arts and shit
1 Name: Anonymous : 2007-12-03 02:29

How come we have stuff like papercraft but we don't have simple arts? I am certain a section dedicated to painting and airbrushing and spray painting techniques and what have you would work so well. Yet no, instead we have anime/cute. Why?

I love this thread. Craft would be the /b/ of the art world. I have a few questions. Feel free to discuss them.

Would the craft board be worksafe?

Would it eventually replace /po/?

Has anyone contacted Moot via e-mail regarding this issue? Kidiron, if you haven't yet, your endorsement post would be a great start to the e-mails. Also, anyone who sends an e-mail should probably make reference back to this thread via url. That way Moot doesn't have to go through a bunch of pages to find it. Be sure to make a screencap of this thread before it dies so you can send it to him as an attachment.

Don't spam his e-mail to get his attention. It sends a bad message that's not properly representative of /po/. In fact, he may start thinking that the e-mails are from people trying to act like they're interested in this idea, but are really just trying to kill it.

>>114676
>Would it eventually replace /po/?

If it did happen, it had better not. Papercraft news is few and far between, and that's why I like the slow pace of this board. I don't miss anything as long as I check once every 3-4 days. If it was combined with everything else, I wouldn't see near as much /po/ as I do now.
>> Anonymous
>>114678
The mods could sticky news or anything relevant to our interests. Or is that too helpful?

What about old stuff that has been posted several times but I haven't seen before? New to me, old to everyone else?

why doesn't someone just make an anonIB board?
>> Anonymous

I just finished the basic squeleton for a vortigaunt clay model. I will probably add aluminum foil to build the torso and head or else he would be very heavy. probably gonna need to build it in many steps starting with the legs and wait this they are dry enough and build it up or else he would probably collapse from his own weight even with the metal wires
