so what are /po/'s advice for making lineless papercrafts?

Do you make a version with the lines on them (if available) as an overview?

Do you just use the line version as a reference on the computer?

What if no lines are available and the only reference you have is a pdo? Clicking everywhere seems impractical and i sometimes miss a fold.

also, sometimes you cannot use a corner of a piece as a reference to where foldlines will start/stop. what do you do in those situations? print out the line versions and match them up directly? Just eye it?

Pic sorta related, not the papercraft i'm struggling with, but that is what i mean by lineless in case you were retarded.

I build lineless when I can, and unless they're important, I don't fold on mountain folds.

Example: If the model is a Hako, I fold because it's important to get the box shape. If the model is that Mudkip, I wouldn't fold anything on the head except for the tabs to give it a smooth look.

I've thought about skipping some folds before, but dong so would make connecting pieces together really difficult would it not? I mean, the tabs would not fall into place neatly like they normally would.

Unless of course, using the mudkip as an example, you specifically choose which parts of the model to "not fold". I assume looking at a template and judging which parts would work without folding comes with experience?

a little OT now, but how do you exactly skip fold and make it work? Just wait like 5 minutes at every tab?

Yeah, on the Mudkip you don't have to fold the head, but you have to fold the feet and the body. I guess it comes with experience, I don't really remember ever "figuring it out".

If the end result is a cylinder, cone, ellipsoid, or otherwise round shape, don't fold. Otherwise, do.
