Attack my minions!

(what I do when my computer crashes at work)
>> Ugly
Still far from 1000 cranes.. :D :D

well done!
try making variations of small cranes (like double cranes, 3 headed cranes etc)
>> Anonymous
Well, I also leave them all over the place for people to find like the windowsill, bathroom, and I usually make two out of my train ticket and leave them on my seat. So my army is spread out and waiting for the attack signal.

I actually need a decent book for simpler origami I can do with post-its when I'm bored. I haven't opened an origami book since I was in grade school and these are the only ones that remain in my muscle memory. Any suggestions for finding the variations you are talking about?

Try here..
http://www.origami-resource-center.com/paper-crane.html

probably not all of them for small sized papers.. but hey that's the challenge right? :D :D

This one is just crazy:
Model folded from smallest square 1mm by 1mm used to fold a crane using a microscope and sewing needle by Assistant Professor Watanabe at Nigata University, Japan.

This one is interesting:
http://phienix.blogspot.com/2007/09/banner-orizurucrane_17.html

The result would be extremely small if you used post-it paper.. but you can always use a microscope and a sewing needle like Watanabe.. hehe :D

mwuahahaha.

I went looking for a 3 headed crane after you said that and stumbled upon this: http://www.metacafe.com/watch/460092/3_headed_crane/

And ended up with the attached picture. My camera couldn't really take that distance so I may upload a better picture later but you get the idea.

I've hit my limit... unless I get better paper.
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Darn, we're not using the same coin. Whose is smaller? Yours looks better, though... hard to work with fractional pieces of post-its.
>> Zeroid
I used rice paper... a rolling paper to be honest!
the euro cent is the smaller coin I can find and it's 1,6 cm
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
Dimes seem to be about 1.7 cm long, so yours is the smaller.

I suppose if I took a small bit of waxed paper, I could go smaller, but I have large hands, and don't want to fold it with tweezers.

Hats off to you to have the patience to make one that small.
>> ookami-chan !HqC5FIcdyY
You guys are amazing...I've always wondered how guys with big hands are able to make such small and precise folds in papercraft, especially with small tabs and stuff. I mean, I have small hands even for a girl and I have trouble with the small fiddly things. I guess it doesn't help that I'm bad with tweezers too lol.
>> Zeroid
with thin paper is almost easy, I did only the final steps with tweezers...
>> To sage or not to sage... that is the question. !!u7H15vJR6mX
For the origami, it was hands-only; I'm used to how much pressure to use for the folds.

When it comes to small pieces on papercrafts, I score (or emboss, or whatever) the pieces BEFORE cutting them out, then will use whatever works to help them fold into the right shapes; tweezers, unfolded paperclips, the like.

A girl at my school made 1000 over 6 months while i was making the 3 depth menger sponge. She then took all 1000 and made them into a large crane using wire.

Dude, if you can't follow the directions on that page... it's so obvious, it's not funny. Really. Just follow the first few steps, and turn the two red squares into bird bases.
>> Rhugha
>>105729
The first few steps would be

>1)Start with a square paper with different colour on both sides
I get that
>2)Fold the diagonals 1/4 th to the centre as below
No problem either
>3)Fold bird base on both ends
Just no

Maybe you see more than me, making it so obvious, but I simply don't get how to fold it

The layering is a bit difficult, and which points to use to make the bird base isn't immediately obvious -- but it is followable. Check the crease pattern; they're leaving out folds. Also, the picture right after this one is showing it done wrong; you want it so the loose points are at the top as in the two pictures below it.
