how many of you actually use a Craft Robo?

I want to get one, but mainly for cutting out stuff for t-shirt transfers and other various stuff (like detailed silhouette bookmarks).
Of course, it would be great for papercrafting too!

So I want to hear any anon's experience with this thing.
Does the contact sheet wear easily and need replacing often? what about the blades?
>> Anonymous
Nobody here uses a craft robo, since it's not a very useful tool if you only have to cut something (a template) out once.
It needs to be "programmed" using the software to know where to cut; you can't just download a template, put it in the machine, and have the machine scan it and hey presto it knows where to cut...
If it's a Pepakura file, then there's a tool that simplifies this step, but most papercrafts are simple pdf or jpeg files, and you'd need to do a lot of work in preperation that just isn't worth it for just one papercraft.

Just used a simple deduction method based on the facts. ;)

That would actually be more reliable than a poll, since there are always people (especially on 4Chan) that try to be funny and give a different answer to try and mess up the poll results.

so, you're mass producing paper stuff? seems like the tool for the trade, go for it dude
>> Anonymous
>>89648
well my last venture into getting papercraft patterns sold at a con went very badly, so perhaps i'll just sell pre-built ones (but then whats the fun in that?)

one of them craft robos are only around $260 now, much cheaper than the t-shirt press i got a while back. I wouldnt be "mass producing" anything, mostly 10-50s of one thing or another for normal everyday con-goers and anonymouses.

... I cant believe how some stay-at-home moms are using it for scrapbooking though. just seems... wrong!

Ohh, could you "take orders" or something? When I make papercrafts, it'd be awesome to get some pre-cut to give to friends or something.

Did you finish Cuebone as a final version papercraft, or were you still stuck at the 3D model?

Not enough free time, found more interesting subjects to papercraft... Can be all kinds of reasons.

>>89799
Since I'm back at school and away from an available pc, (macfag) I CAN only do the models. And honestly, I'm not a big fan of cutting it into parts.

After the original version of the Cubone model I only heard there were two missing faces on the back which I took care of in the "fixed" version. It should be a complete model.

>>89813
Yea, yea, okay. I'll finish the lot of them soon. They don't take a long time anyway. All the ones out there I did in like, a day.

op here.
i've decided to get one ._.; i'll let you guys know how it goes
>> Anonymous
my only concern if i ever get one, is that this cutter
won't help with any papercraft that is not a .pdo file.
Just normal .pdf's it won't know where to cut
amirite?
>> zel
>>89960
thats true, except in the case where you outline it first in illustrator, which, honestly... not that hard even if theres a lot of pieces. much faster than I can go find my cutting matt and sit down to cut it piece by piece.
>> Anonymous
>>89960
It comes with software where you have to tell the cutter to print (Robo Master software). If it's a Pepakura file, then there's a handy converter tool that makes that step really easy, but it should also be possible to use other file formats (jpeg, bmp, CAD format). Then you need to print them out and it adds cross marks on the template, this is what the cutter uses as a starting point, to see where the template is under the cutter exactly.

The tracing of the cut and fold lines is obviously the step that is annoying, irritating and takes a lot of work, so yeah, basically you'll want your template in Pepakura format...

so nobody haves that shit? are all /po/ users poor?

or students of some level of schooling, so ya, I'd say we're all too cheap to buy one of those
>> Anonymous

It's just not a useful tool for 99.9% of the people here (I'm not even sure it's gonna be useful for OP, even if he is gonna use it to cut out the same design several times, but hey, it's his money lol).

i'll let you guys know if this is practical then!
I am just stunned and in awe that apparently the biggest market for this machine is fucking scrapbookers! there are a few forums dedicated to it on UK sites @__@
>> Anonymous
>>90041
All you could do is let us know if it's practical for YOU. And if it is, then you should enjoy your purchase!
But even if it is practical for you, it is not for somebody that just downloads a template from the internet (even if it is a Pepakura file) and then builds it once. It can be useful if you want to make them in series. Otherwise, you're much better off just using a hobbyknife and/or scissors.

here's a guy that definitely is putting the robo to good use

cool np, i didn't see what else he was doing,
thats cool that he uses the robo as a 3D prototyping machine.
your choices of shapes are limited but still sorta effective
>> Anonymous
Looks fun but what's the software like? If it's just tracing the cuts with a selection of line tools or importing a reference image, I'd rather to that then have my desk covered in knife marks, paper and human blood again.

cool lookin site, but i cant read moonspeak (some day...). what i really need right now, more than anything in this world, is a link to a template of a tachikoma, preferably this one, as it has really nice detail, and any amount of effort would be worth it.

I know you asked, but it was the last thing in the OP. It usually takes a while for people to completely read the OP and answer the questions. This is mainly because answers for the other questions are being posted and the thread leans toward those questions.

I'd rather use a cutting mat and learn how to use a hobbyknife than waisting time on doing this for a template I'm gonna cut out only once.
>> Anonymous
>>90074
I wouldn't buy a cutting machine like craft robo just because it can cut nice; only if you have to cut the same thing several times, because then, you can use the same cutting program several times.
If you want nice cuts, you should just take your time, instead of wanting to cut out all the parts in five minutes... It's not difficult to cut a perfectly straight line by hand even without a ruler or something, and it's not difficult to cut a perfect curved line by hand. But I often get the feeling that most /po/eple here aren't really that patient, which is quite ironic because that's the one thing you can't do without in papercraft: patience. ;)
>> zel
>>90262
exactly. I have no patience whatsoever. the couple of finished papercraft I've done are actually very nicely cut (heck, one of my classes back at college had a whole project on cutting paper for color theory).

thank goodness I usually only build my own templates and only occasionally build downloaded ones. Then I can actually prototype something and not build it several times.

Mind you all, Im still only going to be using the craft robo as a "papercraft tool" 20% of the time, the 80% is me making stuff for cons lol.
>> Anonymous
I cant cut, I always fail, but instead I am very good at vectors, so for me it would be a great help
