dear wolf,
i think i speak for all of /po when i say;
I LOVE YOU

aww Wolf should actually get an unlimited amount of webspace cause Wolf will own other papercraft sites lol. not that other papercraft sites suck, but Wolf actually interacts with the community and helps. Wolf, hopefully your mailbox wont be flooded with requests and makes you stressed :( You probably already have a ton of emails by now, hopefully not a lot of spam or people hammering down on your projects.

Will this be another 100+ pager..? The 3D model looks at least as high-poly as your Iron Man (you found the right template version of that one yet..?) Also, is it just me, or do her thumbs look like they're backwards..? And does the model have bones? So you could make a different pose, other than that awful "scarecrow" position..?

(PS: personally, I don't really think she looks alot like Major Kusanagi from the GitS movies or the series (almost looks like sydney in one of her "undercover outfits" in Alias ;)... But I do think a lot of 4Channers would like a model of a woman dressed like this... ;)

that's a bit too much detail for a paper model...............................................................................................

>> Wolf
Awwwww shucks! ;) LOL

I've got a challenging one for ya all... The FULL figure of Alphonse's armor from Fullmetal Alchemist... I've got the one that's just the helmet, but I REALLY want that complete model that's been floating around... ;)

Wolf
>> Anonymous
>>40648
It hasn't exactly "been floating around", far from it actually...
http://dotubo.hp.infoseek.co.jp/crazycraft/
I don't know if the guy ever released it, certainly not as a download on the internet. It might have been sold at some convention, or it might just have been a one time build he did himself (so many requests here have one of these two stories behind them, I sometimes don't remember correctly and mix them up... I really don't know which one applies here I'm afraid, sorry... :[
>> Wolf
It's actualy a poser model, so I can shape her anyway I like... The pose I set is make sense when I add the base I have in mind... A rooftop ledge, with her leaning back going into a backwards swandive... This one is still in the 3d 'thinking' stage, so nothing is set in stone yet... & no, this won't be a monster... ;) I'm thinking 12" tall max...
I've got a bunch of reference pics, as well as the season-1 SOC dvd set... I do plan on trying my hand at here series costume instead of this 'cover' suit...

You're going to find that the majority of my personal models are going to be higher poly than what you usualy find online... I just happen to prefer more 3d detail & more defined shapes. I'll try to do an additonal 'low poly' version for those who would rather go that route, or make the 3d model & pep file available to anyone else who wants a go at it from scratch... :)

lol you mean like the opening scene of the first movie that all weeaboos think of when they hear the term "anime"? ;) She actually "swan dives" forwards there... ;) Well, actually she just leans forward, hands besides here body and only turns and puts her arms out after she lets herself fall down.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGBpYMfWYCw
(sorry about the terrible English dubbing, it wasn't me who uploaded it...)

But this is one of these times that somebody can actually choose the pose themselves, instead of the usual boring standard pose when people rip the models from a game, so please, oh please; reconsider putting her in a more interesting action pose? please?

It's not the webspace I'm worried about, it's the bandwidth. When that ninjatoes dude had to put his Wolf Link papercraft on a new host, in one single day (overnight actually) the 5 GB bandwidth limit he had was exceeded. So you would last 4 days. With one papercraft. And you're planning to host tons.
Of course it's all up to how popular the papercrafts are, but I think you'll find that bandwidth is much more valuable than webspace.
It is the reason most sites just provide the links, not the actual papercrafts. I think this would be a wise choice for you as well, except of course for the stuff that doesn't have a website of its own, like Chamoo's stuff, or any stuff we know that have dead links.
But for the other stuff, you could suffice with providing accurate/correct links. It will save a lot of bandwidth.
>> Wolf
The site is actualy 5gigs of storage, with 20gigs of bandwidth... My intention is to just host the models that aren't available on other sites. I'll do a link page as well, so it should cover all the bases... :)
I use to use the finalpaper alot... Then thier server crashed & they lost everything... Now that they've restarted, they are a 'korean only' membership site... Major bummer.. Thankfully I saved the majority of thier old models... ;)

Get a real host.
http://www.dreamhost.com
7.95$/mo. gets you 16GB storage and 1.2TB bandwidth. free domain reg...
>> Anonymous
>>40710
heck... my current limit is 2.7TB/mo and grows by like 50GB/mo.
>> Anonymous
>>40705
the guy was talking about the ninjatoes site: ninjatoes had 5 GB bandwidth (dunno the webspace) and yes you have 4 times more (20 GB) but that still wouldn't be alot if you were gonna host like a 100 or so papercrafts).
I agree it would be best if you would only host the papercrafts that don't have their own site, and just link to the others, like you and>>40698said.

wolf, do not take to heart the discouraging comments, all to often po is a place of arrogance and rudeness, I appreciate your contributions to this site along with all other positive, helpful and useful contributions to the po board. If you or anyone has any models "too high poly" or not i am happy to look at them and build the ones that I find interesting. Thank you wolf and all others who take time to model, and create the templates for papercraft
>> Anonymous
I agree. Create whatever you like, and then people can decide for themselves they want to build it or not.
But the "too high poly" remark is often just well intended feedback (if you post here, we assume you want feedback and ideas how to improve your papercraft?). "Too high poly" means: "will be very difficult to build". And I believe the people that design papercrafts here on /po/, aim to have them build by as many people as possible. Many paper modelers have stated they don't even build their model themselves, so the whole point is to make it as easy as possible for OTHERS to understand how to assemble it. Hence the warning: "too high poly" as a suggestion to make it less high poly and easier to build, to achieve that goal.
Maybe the phrase has become so negative because it gets said so often, but it *is* often a problem since most people seem to use ready-made 3D models. Or maybe it shouldn't be "TOO high poly" (maybe people take it literally as "can't be done") but just "VERY high poly"? As in: "can be done, but will be very difficult", more what the person means too say?
>> Anonymous
i understand what you are saying and as someone who has both built 100's of models and well as designed at least 25 know the importance of making a model easy to build. I guess i am just sick of the negitivity of the general po'er as of late. I think that some models that are "too high poly" can be amazing. like the bust of gannon, from wind waker I bet you that is a higher poly count model. But i digress, i understand that often when posting a model here on PO it is a place where critique and improvement advice is given. I just see some of the coments floating around and think to myself why would you want to post a model here if you get bombarded with such negitive feedback? even great models are complained about. sorry to go on i just am trying to have the po'ers be more constructive is all i ask

I try not to care so much what some Anon (or some tripfag ;) ) says on 4Chan. If it's good advice, I use it to my advantage, if it's a crappy remark at my work, I ignore it. Its my way of preventing a premature death due to stress and high bloodpressure. ;)
But in all fairness: if you're hoping for feedback, the best criticism is when people tell you what they think is wrong with your work. Then you know what you need to work on some more. Sure, it's nice when people are big fans of oh, let's say Metal Gear Solid ;) and they tell you they love you for making a model of it, and you're the best and your papercraft will pwn the papercraft universe, but I think it's the posts that say: needs a flap here, or a fold line there that actually help Chamoo make progress.
The rest is just to help the designer keep the drive to finish the work. Also a very important factor, of course (maybe even more important, I don't know ;) ).

And the Ganondorf Bust is actually not as high poly as you think: Pepakura won't even give a warning about it when you first open it. And Chokipeta has the skills to make it even easier to build, by breaking it down in very logical parts. I enjoy the crafts designed by the /po/ people, but to compare it with Chokipeta's work...

wolf - you da man

awesome stuff, keep it up and consider a donation function - i'd happily donate some change to keeping your site up in exchange for all the many hours of meticulous work you'll provide me ;)

Sorry for the slow replies, been offline for a bit...
No ganon templets, but that pic looked pretty cool... Are there any 3d models of it around? I could give it a shot (along with the 3 dozen or so others I have lined up, LOL ;) )

Donations would definately help, & I'll most likely put a paypal link on my site... I'm also thinking of doing a few of my finished high-end models as 'pay-for's' in the $10 range, with the beta's being freebies...

& I take all critics & praises in stride... :) It always helps to have someone point out sonmething I missed, & a little praise definately helps keeps the gogs in motion... ;)

I'm still working on the Ironman redo, & the seperate helmet... I'll get them posted as soon as I can, but it'll most likely be sometime next week.

Not the ones where you didn't design the 3D models yourself I'm hoping..?
If you're planning on selling your models, I think you should design an original character (not an existing anime/game character) since I've seen a few websites who quickly received a "cease and desist" letter (well, e-mail). Companies seem to condone papercraft as long as it stays "fanart", meaning people aren't making money from their intellectual property.
But hey, I'm not a lawyer. ;)
>> Wolf
No worries on that, LOL ;) I've delt with C&D's in the past selling prop replicas... I got a nice letter from Fox a couple years ago in regards to Predator costumes I was making...

I actualy want to try & get a few licences for some game & comic PC I want to do, so we'll see... But for the time being, anything I release for $$$ will be 100% original...

if you make paper model of figure from game movie comics then selling them on like ebay its iligal but if you give it for free its not iligal then its fantastik

Technically, if you make anything (drawing/clay statue/papercraft) that resembles an existing game or anime character, it's also illegal: you didn't come up with the look of that character, the designer of some game/anime company did ("intellectual property"). But obviously, they don't really care if some kid makes a drawing of his favourite anime hero. Or when some 4Channers make a papercraft about their anime. They couldn't possibly ban all fan-art, and fans would only find the companies jerks if they tried to do that. But when you start asking money for it, they often do start to care about you using their intellectual property...
>> digerman3
but is the no rule if you make it and give it away free the dont care but if you try to make som money then the care ?????

I'm going to archive this thread, so I can start a new one for it later after the thread has been deleted, and also in case someone wants screenshots of the thread later on. I get the feeling that this project is going to go on for awhile before it even begins to calm down a little.
