I decided to work on my website a bit and add
my newest models on it. so for those who don't
know the link here is it

I'm glad you picked up papercraft again and that you made a new start for your website so that people have a place where they can always get your models.
Are you really going to sell your Half Life Dog papercraft? I think people would buy it for a fair price but I don't think you'll have much luck selling just templates, because there are many more places like /po/... And you might become a victim of your own success, because I am pretty sure the people at Valve know about your papercrafts and love it - until you start making money out of it.

I only made that poll to see if there was enough interest to even considering making money with my models. if there is demand for it I might build complicated models and sell em. one every week or two. i'm working on another complicated model right now

People will certainly be interested in buying assembled papercrafts like your D0G be you did a great job assembling it and it looks great. I also understand why you're only thinking of one ever one or two weeks at most lol it takes a lot of time assembling papercrafts like those.
>> chamoo232
>>179589
yeah and considering how much time it take it would need to be sold at a decent price for it to be worth it.

That's the problem with paper, it's still just... paper. And building a papercraft is something basically anything can do, so you can't really ask for a whole lot of money: your time is precious to you, but to somebody else, they're mostly interested in their own time lol... Maybe it's an idea to change the poll on your site from "would you buy an assembled model" (the answer to that is yes I think) to "how much would you be willing to pay for an assembled model like the Half Life D0G?"
1. 5-10 bucks
2. 10-20 bucks
3. I wouldn't be willing to pay for it

Or something like that of course. Then you can see better if it would be worth it I think. However it turns out, good luck and please continue making more papercrafts! ;)

it's never going to work. first, you don't own or have rights to the names or likeness that you are basing your papercrafts on. second, if said companies find out youre making money of their stuff, you get sued. third, advertising on /po is 'not' the best way to do it.

the only solution: you have to make models that are your own design or you ask permission from the companies that own it (example: valve)

im not planning to mass produce models.

He's not selling the character, he's selling the papercraft. Any asshole can download them and put them together, he's selling HIS work.

still, if you don't have permission from the companies that own it, you cant make money off of it.

anybody can make a papercraft of a character as long as you dont make money out of it, when you start selling somebody else intellectual property - be ready to expect a law suit of some sort

It's the same when somebody sells a cd with lots of free papercrafts from the interwebs. They say: I'm not selling the papercrafts, I'm selling the time it cost me to find all these models and put them on a cd!
They didn't magically become the owner of the papercrafts on the cd, and chamoo didn't magically become the owner of the D0G design just because she made a papercraft out of it.
You can always try of course, it will work until somebody tells Valve about it. They won't immediately sue you, they will send you a "cease and desist" letter usually with an ultimatum, after which you do as they tell you and stop selling, because unlike them, you don't have 50,000 bucks handy to pay for your lawyers (if you do, there's no problem because you probably won't be selling papercrafts on the internet then...)

i don't think you get what is meant by 'mass'

I think the problem with selling ANYTHING these days is the piracy factor. Why spend money when you can get it for free?

Didn't we already have this argument before?

Also D0g. I don't see what the problem is, Chamoo, I like my models to be extremely difficult and entirely stress filled when putting together. It's better than the repetition, at least. That's why I'm putting off finishing my WALL-E and Weighted Companion Cube models.

Which reminds me, we really need a Chell model. Anyone up for it?
