I have an idea, and I wanted to see what /po/ has to say about it.

I was thinking about taking the MG Rex templates, printing them out, then using spray adhesive, attach the templates to something stiff, such as posterboard. Then cut them out and glue them up for a somewhat stiffer model.

I think the biggest concern is that posterboard, and especially posterboard with stuff glued to it, might not fold too well.

Attached is the first pic in the Rex set. I can post the rest if needed.

Why not just print the templates out on the posterboard directly? You could also by precut 8x11 cardstock too.

i printed mine out on printer paper, and just glued the pieces to the backs of index cards. it actually came out really well IMO

Honestly, I didn't think you could print on posterboard.

I think I'll try cardstock, though. I wonder if it'll work in my parent's laser printer.
Thanks!

It should work. Just make sure the plain regular side is what gets printed on. The ink won't stick to the shiny, glossy side.

I know my old inkjet had a setting that would just feed paper horizontally, straight through the printer. That allowed me to print on some heavier papers without problem back in the day.

Perhaps your printer might have that kind of configuration as well?

In any event, some of the Metal Gear Rex templates need to be edited. I found several mistakes when building both Rex and Shagohod, including one Shagohod piece that had to be flipped vertically before printing so that it would "fit."

how large is the Rex supposed to be?
looks faily small
>> Voltron
Printed on 8.5x11 inch paper, about the size of a softball. In the game... somewhat larger.

Not my picture, but that's about how big mine is turning out so far.

I'm currently slowly working on mine now. (Well, it's missing only one leg.) My REX is pretty large, I separated in Photoshop each part from the original panels and printed them as large as I could. (But still keeping the measures of other parts, of course.) The largest part was some part of the Shagohod. It just goes to one A4.

I measured it. Mines about 14cm or 5.5 inches tall.

Well, for the regular A4 size, you don't need to use cardboard, your regular printer paper (80gram copy/laser paper) is fine.

Wow, that sounds like it could be pretty big.

I still haven't printed mine off yet. I'll make sure to do it soon, though, and post the results
