Help with PePaKuRa Designer Namrepus221
I have an 3d file that I really want to turn into a Papercraft piece. Unfortunately it's so high res that it would be impossible to do. Does anyone know of any free programs (legitimately free) that can do vert verging so I can take the file down in quality from something that looks like it came from Virtua Fighter 1 or 2 in terms of visible verts (It's the only example I can think of) Any help is greatly appreciated. thank you. (I've attached an image of VF1 to show how low I'd like to get it.)

try to use Metasequoia.
There is a function to decrease vertexes. But beware! At a point of decreasing it may look like shit.

That point comes fairly fast. If you use a model ripped from a game, the most time consuming step in making a papercraft is editing this model to make it suited for use in Pepakura.
And yes, computer programs can help you decrease the polygon count, but remember: computers are stupid. Humans aren't (well, some of them are). You'll get the best result if you put in *a lot* of time into editing the 3D model by hand. If you let the computer extrapolate a high-poly organic form to a low-poly geomatric shape, don't be surprised if the result will look nothing like what you expected... If you want the result that you expect, do it by hand and you can work towards it.
Good luck, but either way: it's gonna take a lot of work, don't be tricked into thinking that you can let a computer do most of the work. Just don't give up and remember: it doesn't have to be finished before next week. If you get fed up with your project, just let it rest for a while and pick it up later.

Thanks guys.

The file is a Poser OBJ so it's not ripped from a game. I just hope that the program you suggested can do it fine.

I doubt the "reduce polygons" option in Metasequoia will make a high res poser model in a nice papercraft suited 3d model like the picture in>>31279.
The arms for instance, that will probably be round/organic in poser, will most likely not be reduced to nice octagon/hectagon tubes. A computer is not smart enough to know that's what you want.
But all I can say is: try, and let us know if it worked!

well I tried. Unfortunately I can't get it down to a good reduction without the arms entirely disappearing and becomming little stubs.

Thanks for your help guys. I will keep trying it. But I don't know if I'll keep it up.

what model are you trying to reduce, if you have .obj files and post them i may be able to help you out?

ok>>31449

I have the OBJ's but the subject matter is a taboo arround here and I don't want to be harassed about it...

Alright fine... it's furry. Yes someone took the time and the effort to make an Anthro Poser model. I wanted to make it into a Papercraft for a friend. She created a fanfiction character that is an anthro-mouse and I wanted to make a papercraft type version of it using a model I had found for her as a gift for her birthday.

I am sorry if you feel the need to ridicule me about this but it doesn't bother me really.

You topic is now null, please leave /po/.

I don't think it is. I'm just trying to do something for a friend. Is that so wrong?

If it has to do with furries it's WRONG!
You've wasted everyones time.

Whatever you say man. Honestly I don't care about furries myself, god damn freaks. I just wanted to do something for a friend of mine is all.

(sage is for retards, not for fur)

Blender. Scripts>Mesh>Poly Reducer.

Also, better done manually.

If you have, liek, weeks of spare time, yeah, go for manual...

Well yeah. That's the time it takes to make a *good* paper model. Since you won't be working on it 24/7 (if you have a life besides /po/, that is) chances are it *will* take you weeks of working with the 3D model, unfolding it in Pepakura, testbuilding it (peepz: please don't skip this step... It will save everybody a lot of unbuildable, crappy papercrafts...) and finally making the templates to share.
"ZOMG!! I'm gonna make a paper DOA girl and peepz will all love me, give me their internets and babies!!
...
ZOMG... This is hard....... Takes more than one evening of work... Forget it man, keep your babies!!!"
