Using normal paper won't mean you can't touch the papercraft out of fear that it will buckle, but using cardstock will make it sturdIER. It's simple logic: thicker paper --> stronger. And the bigger the parts get (the bigger the distance between the edges of the parts, those are actually the strong parts on the papercrafts) the better is it to use cardstock instead of regular paper.
