You see, when you look closely at the 3D model, you can see that the helmet for instance is made of "rectangular" section (parallelograms or whatever) a basic way of making (approximating) globes/spheres in a 3D modelling program. But the original creator of the model was kinda lazy I guess, because they're not perfect: some of them are a little hollow, some of them are like mountains (personally, this is one of the first things I correct in the 3D model, to reduce the number of polygons and so I don't have to put up with all those "fake" fold lines in Pepakura later on). On each "rectangle", both sets of two opposite sides should be parallel, but they're not, that's what's causing this. Probably got warped during modelling.
