My Printer SUCKS. Anonymous
Hey, /po/... Papercraft newb here. I just made my first papercraft, the Weighted Companion Cube. I'd always been interested in papercraft, but was always intimidated by the complexity of the cooler looking models. I picked the cube because it looked really easy, and it was.

Anyway, my printer SUCKS (note the uneven blacks/greys in the pick, which was printed black with a fresh cartridge then colored over with colored pencil) and won't print color any more, and won't even print greyscale correctly. I had to print in plain B&W to even get something I could color myself.

So I'm looking to get a new printer, just a single function that prints good pictures, for cheap. And something that can handle 110 lb paper (or cardstock, or whatever, since this crappy 20 lb printer paper I have is crap).

Current printer is a Lexmark 2-in-1 (scanner) but I'm thinking of getting a $50 HP printer.

Any suggestions?

I use the HP Photosmart C4280 All-In-One printer.

I think it's fantastic, but the internet doesn't.

OP here.

I'm thinking of going with a Canon, but I definitely don't need another "All-in-One" unless I can hit a bargain on a really good one. Besides, I don't scan or fax or anything very often, and my girlfriend can just take my old printer for just the scanner part (which still works EXCELLENTLY, unlike the printing, which was never that great in the first place).

I just need something that prints really well, no frills.

Thanks for the advice, though... I think I'm going with one of these:

I have an HP 5740 that I got for $70. It works very well.

I suggest a cheap deskjet (http://tinyurl.com/2jgtab), but if you want something really fancy, get a laserjet (http://tinyurl.com/2qx5f7). You can get one for as low as $130, but the ink will definately cost you.

I have an Epson R350, and I've found it to be an excellent printer. It takes 6 different colour cartridges and I've found that they last a hell of a lot longer than the traditional 4. As a bonus, it also prints onto DVD/CD discs and will print directly from memory cards/flash drives.

Also, be wary when buying cheap printers. Most will use tiny ink cartridges which will make you pay more in the long run. 20mL is ideal for black and 15 for color.

I sell printers everyday. Canon's rule as far as quality and price of ink goes.

MX700 is an AWESOME printer for the price. Can usually be gotten for around $150 U.S.D.(with sale or rebates), has seperate color cartridges, and a pretty high capacity black cartridge for the money.

HP 98 black (11ml) = $19.99
Canon 5 black (26ml) $17.99

Why would you buy an HP P.O.S. (Which we also are a licensed warranty depot for them and I see TONS come back within 4 onths or so of owenrship with ridiculous problems)
