Large origami paper? Anonymous
Where does /po/ get their large sheets of origami paper, for instance the stuff used for Kamiya designs. I've had a devil of a time trying to find it online.../po/ please assist me, as my google-fu has failed me.

According to most the books they make their own paper. Most origami books the first chapter tells you with what and how to make your own paper.

Back when I was huge on Origami, I usually made my own. Take an 8.5*11 inch sheet of paper, fold one corner up so that two perpendicular edges are lined up perfectly, and cut off the excess. Origami paper!

OP here. I was rather hoping it would be available somewhere, even if I have to pay a pretty good price...I've tried using newspaper, but the toner is just too much.

yeah, 8.5" is obvious, and not much good for any
thing more complicated than the kawasaki rose. I'm talking 12", 24", or even bigger.

I'm gonna get my hands on a roll of the bulletin board paper used at work, but I'm looking for higher quality stuff.

well, there's this as first on the google.

But a number of the pictures I've seen involve wrapping paper. Not ideal, I suppose, but reasonably thin, with some strength to it, and you can cut it to quite some size.
Like...
It seems that an average roll of wrapping paper is 30" by 240", or in that vicinity. So that's 8 30x30 inch squares, and those are pretty big. I'd think that's big enough for most of what you're looking for.
Beyond that, if you're thinking about going to go to all the trouble of making your own, and all the trouble, inconsistency, and thickness that that includes, I'd go with this

And figure that that'll be decent. At 24" wide and 65 feet long, you're looking at 32 two foot squares for just over five bucks.
A little stiff, maybe, but not too bad, if you're going to be making things that need to bear up under their own weight.
Personally, I tend towards modular origami, so my problem is finding places that'll sell me hundreds of sheets of paper without having to pay hundreds of dollars.

I found a place in El Cerrito, CA called Ichiban Kan that's got cheap 15cm papers - a dollar for a pack of 300.

If anyone wants to share some modular books, I'd be grateful. The ones in /rs/ aren't bad, but they're not really good, either.

If you want to use newspaper you should call the local office and ask them for blank sheets. I know our local office will sell them for craft projects. Pretty inexpensive too, but I can't remember how much, just that it seemed cheap!

Good luck!

Moving companies use unprinted newspaper for packaging valuables. Another place to look to buy it in bulk.

How large are we talking? You can get decent sized paper at http://www.origami-usa.org/thesource/agora.cgi

Just make some tissue foil. Take a piece of aluminum foil and use some spray adhesive to attach two sheets of tissue paper to it. The tissue foil is great for anything with many points. Need larger paper than the aluminum foil provides? Just overlap more foil. Otherwise I use lokta paper that has been treated with a batch of methyl cellulose to wet fold with. Good luck
