I know there is a star thread but this is a bit different.

How do I keep a consistent shape to my stars? I fold them the same way every time and some "pinch" good and puff out and others crush and implode.

I don't have finger nails so I have to use the tip of my finger or the side once it gets too sore. They look a little rounded but I didn't care.

Now that 1 out of 4 implodes on me I'm getting pissed. Its not hard to fold them the hardest part is the "knot" at the beginning I can't get it the same every time and I assume that might be the problem.

Any tips? I thought I had myself a hobby but as usual it turns out to be something else to piss me off.

Pic not related. Its not mine.

Every now and then I get one the "implode". The problem with those of mine is that I'm not wrapping it tightly enough. Make sure it's TIIIGHT before you pinch it together.

I mean "get the one that 'implodes'"

well at first I was pushing them down with a ruler once I folded them so they'd compress more but I thought that made it harder to puff them out....I guess I'll have to try different stuff.

Nah, don't push it down, if you do it perfectly it should be tight without having to push it down. If you do push it down, it's still not wrapped tightly, so therefore it can still "implode".

ive had the opposite experience. when i wrap them too tightly they die during pinching. see in my pic im holding a new fold in my fingers. if i squeeze that too hard, then the whole thing becomes really thin, and the composition of the star is uniform - its like a stack of layers, and thats it. what i do is i dont pinch that part at all, i guess i do wrap the strip around the corners tightly enough, but im careful not to put any pressure on that new fold. when you do it that way, there's a natural pocket in the middle of the star when you're finished, so when you pinch it, the point where the layers separate is much more likely to be in the middle.
does that make sense?

also, wtf kind of camera are you using to create a filename like AAAAAje92X4AAAAAABM2Ng.jpg

Er, yeah. I guess I didn't really say it like that. It needs to be tight, but don't force any creases. I'll get a few pictures of mine in a second

More or less what mine look like maybe the paper is just too small for my big hands... its 1cm by 25cm. Maybe I just suck at making stars, I'll figure that and just round out the 80 I bought and retire. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and it really bothers me when some of my stars look good are others look retarded.
