Dear internets, I request the answer to the pic!
>> Anonymous
is the same answer as why there are gay people

This has nothing to do with /po/.

However... measure the angles on the blue and red triangles. Although they LOOK equal, they're not. The edge AB and the edge DE are NOT the same.

Because of their slightly different angles, the space left in arranging the pieces LOOKS faulty, but the same surface area is used. Look at the squares cut into pieces by the diagonal lines; the amounts are not the same in the two pictures. It's enough to add up to an entire square unit.

i came from the twilight zone

the angles are wrong, now post papercraft

3/8 =/= 2/5

2/5 is not equal to 3/8
and i drew this in paint for some reason

Slope of AB is different from the slope of DE

You are all
FUCKING
RETARDED.

DEE DEE FUCKING DEE.

Look, they are the same pieces, and they add up to the same shape, and the same slope and all. It's just that when you move the orange piece over to the side of the green piece, there is extra space. The side of the orange is longer than the top (see pic). It only fits together because the bottom of the red is equal to the top of orange+green, and the side of blue is equal to the side of orange.

LOOK AT THE PIC.

Holy shit.

I really hope you're joking

ABC is not triangle, so area is not equal 5x13/2
Red area=3x8/2=12
Green area=8
Orange area=8
Blue area=2x5/2=5
Total=12+8+8+5=33 is not equal 5x13/2.

slope is not straight, in top picture it bends inwards, in bottom, it bends outwards.
the small triangle created is what causes the "dissapearing" block.

hypotenuse isn't strait!

Holy shit I hope you are joking.

The answer has been posted many times now but look closely, they are NOT the same shape.

Neither ABC nor DEF are actually triangles.

Look at the hypotenuse picture.

you fail. hard.
>> Xydirus

seconded.
but actually, hard is really soft for that kind of fail. but the fact is, that if we tried to find a propper word of that kind of fail, it would still not be enough, so I agree, hard is ok.

>>109244
Oh my fucking god.

IT DOESN'T MATTER that the hypotenuse isn't straight, the question is where the hole came from! The problem doesn't even MENTION triangles ONCE, meaning that THEY WEREN'T TRIANGLES TO BEGIN WITH, and yet all you assholes are bitching about some non-existant hypotenuse.

Holy shit, and you call ME fail.
>> TSONTS !!u7H15vJR6mX
>>109732
YOU fail. The slopes are where the cube went. Line AB is curved TOWARDS C. Line DE is curved AWAY FROM F. The amount of difference? One square unit.

YOU DOUBLE FAIL... bumping a non-/po/ thread that was over 4 pages buried.

FAIL x 2
man, are you going to try a fail combo?
you already have 2 hits in a row, lets see how far can you take it

I believe you all are thinking too much, its a just a logic puzzle

I finally got sick of seeing this and decided to scour the web.

http://infohost.nmt.edu/~armiller/triangles.htm

This explains it perfectly.
