Modular Origami? Anonymous
anybody else into Modular Origami? sorry these are some of my more crappy examples. everything I've made that's worth showing off ended up as gifts but you get the idea.

but if you have any diagrams please post em, let me know I can post some of mine once I figure out what the fuck I did with them.

Mod Origami is win, no questions asked. Been making it for years. im sure any diagrams i have are on the net and easy to find. Have you made the five intersecting tetrahedra model yet? loads of fun

its missing the "type 2 module" part but if you can get this far I'm sure its not hard.

anyway post pix if you finish one I always love to see other peoples work, all my friends think origami is stupid :(

The rest was either found on youtube or books, so
I can't provide the diagrams right now.
Hint: /rs/ has some modular origami books.

Good site with lots of instructions or links to them.

Thank you internet. Once again you have introduced me to a new hobby!

I made this once, using those exact instructions. The tabs are freaking tiny, I wound up gluing them all together. Is it actually a hard model, or do I just suck at this?
>> Anonymous
>>132041
its been so long since i made it that i really don't even remember the tabs, lol, it was kinda challenging for me at the time though.

I've spent the last two days trying to do the FIT (five intersecting thetraedra) to no result. Doing the thetraedra is easy, but building the damn thing is driving me crazy.
>> Anonymous
Once I decided to go insane and build a buckyball out of PHiZZ units. I forget how many pieces it was, but I think I put 4 or five hexes between the pentagons. I got 4/5 of the way through it before I noticed that I fucked up the color pattern for it and had to start over again. Good Times. And by Good Times, I mean FUCK YOU OCD.

LOVE m/o, but I'm abysmally bad at it.

do you have a pic? I've always wanted to do one but it just seems so time consuming. everyone I work with are chemists, one even specifically worked with buckey balls and carbon nanotubes so I thought he'd get it kick out if it.

There, made the FIT tonight. Think I had two problems the last time: nasty thick paper and not really reading the directions. The explanation of how pairs relate made it lots easier to think about.

Tabs were still a bitch and turned out kinda ugly. Seems like I made the tabs too small and the pockets too big. But at least it's done, and much sturdier than expected.
>> Anonymous
>>131546
same here
>> Anonymous
>>132373
unless you are a computer, then thats usually what happens. the thickness of the paper determines what happens with the tabs. I think its because the first fold on each end is the reference for the second fold, so if the first is off by a little, the second is even more off.

well today i got bored and am still doing lots of modular origami. i normmaly use 5cm by 5cm paper but today i got bored and decided use make and use 2.5cm by 2.5cm paper. and well i made a modular thing with 30 parts i forget its name. but well lol it was fun

heres another one

>>132609

what modules are these?
>> Anonymous
its an icosahedron
it uses the same materials as an epcot ball. u can make all kinds of stuff with those pieces
>> Anonymous
>>132609

wow, I do miniture origami but thats fucking crazy, nice work. I did a ball like the 3rd one pictured in the first post but maybe 1.5 inches but that shit you made is fucking nice.

another fun thing to try is to make a swan out of a quarter of a star burst wrapper. for whatever reason you can make it work with the wax paper they come in. maybe I'll post pix when I get home.
>> Anonymous
>>132701
but isnt a starburst wrapper kinda big?
>> Anonymous
>>132724

thats why you use a quarter of a wrapper. its only maybe 2cm by 2cm...or something like that.
