dear /po/,
im thinking of starting a new hobby and its kinds strange, i figured /po/ would be the best help. i want to make books look badass and look like an either very very rich man would have it, or a wizard.
the problem is that as a as a hobby it does not seem very diverse in what i can make (the would all look vaguely like the pic) so, does anyone have pictures of awesome books like this, or failing that ideas/ descriptions that would make good first attempts (dont mind jumping in headfirst, im good enough with my hands to make it not crap, but somthin like pic would take a while or not look 100% as good)

Check out tutorials on steampunk design, and if you're feeling bold you could start brass etching your own covers.

this seems a bit much for me at 1 am.... but tomorrow, i will be possible.

i knew the corners would be annoying as they would get scratched easier if they were the most raised part on the books. but brass wouldn't scratch as easy, or if it did, it would look like scratched brass... not scratched paint.

You can also dye your pages and cover with "Distress Ink". You can pick this up at Micheals or A.C. Moore. It's about 5 bucks.

i was thinking dies would get a easier non uniform color for the bottom layer (so you dont know what the book is) and that i would build up on those.

the only problem im thinking is, do i make it perminate. if i do, then i obviously need to memorize what they books are if i want to read them again... but i can not for the hell of me think of an easy way to get them removeable, but stay on when i want them to, and still be able to open easy like a book

You could etch a design that relates to the book. And there is always the "Let's open the book to check what it is" method.

lol, the second works, but i think the first sounds cooler, im prettu sure im gunna start on my dnd books. they are all the same size, if they get ruined, well i can get pdf's. and they arnt as thick, so i can work out the opening problem (the binding face is worrying me, i dont want a like... hindge, or big ones, just subtle if i have to use them, but if i dont use them, you might be able to see the origional binding unless i covered it with fabric like some fancy books use)

Use a small barrel piano hinge for the bindings on the DnD books.
Works fine. I've been working on doing this same thing to mine with the brass plates and jewels and such.

this actually sounds pretty cool, post pics when you finish. also a suggestion, if you could figure out a way to make a large cover with some small hinges/buckles that could latch the book in (like a paper cover on a hardcover book) then you'd be able to remove it, itd just be alot more complicated :/
