Creating 3D models of real stuff HentaiCabbit !!+Iwo5KJd+lF
Hey all. I recently watched the latest episode of Systm, and they were showing how to make 3D models of real objects for free. All it requires is a webcam, a laser that can produce a line (like a laser level would), and some software called David LaserScan.

I figure this should help with making papercraft. If you want a papercraft of a samurai sword and have access to it, just scan it and make it. The same with an Xbox, IPhone, or pretty much anything else.

Check out the episode of Systm, and you'll see what I mean.

Great idea, but not so much for /po/
Just the front side of the penguin looks over 10k poly.

Seems like a nice idea. I could finally get started on that peniscraft I keep suggesting. Do you guys mind if it slants to the left a little?

That could work, but you'd have to keep the object being scanned perfectly still, and the only reliable way that'd probably happen is to cut it off. That might not be the best thing to do... Or you could just scan a dildo. That'd probably work too, and it'd be a little less messy.

Those 10k+ polys can probably be smoothed down to a few flat and curved surfaces. But you're correct. Scanning something this way would have an extremely good resolution, even with a crappy webcam.
