Bolter Anonymous
Does /po/ want a bolter? :3
I'm trying to do a 1:1 but its hard
I'm new to this modeling stuff, so it might take a while to release it, this is my first papermodel ever.
Sorry about my crappy english
>> Anonymous
Your english is fine, and the model looks great, but uh..

Where's it from?
>> Anonymous
the model is from turbo squid, its a full space marine, I wanted so much a bolter that I got the model, and deselected all the suit, I'm tryon to resize it in pepakura, how can I do that?
>> Anonymous
I've no idea, sorry, but I'm sure someone will come along that knows how.

its Warhammer 40k

OP here
How can I save my model, i'm tryin to save but it keep asking for a password, I dont have any experience with this pepakura, all I know is how to unfold

Pepakura is Shareware: you can use Pepakura, and you can print your finished template, but you can't save it or export it without the password (which you can buy or "acquire in other ways"...)
Resizing can only be done after unfolding: in the 2DPatternwindow, you can size the template to any size you want. To get to know Pepakura, first make a cube in a 3D software, import it in Pepakura, then click all the buttons once to see what they do.
Also, the 3D models seems to have some flaws, and since you got it from Turbosquid, I doubt that the model was intended for papercraft. Things would probably go a lot easier in Pepakura if the preliminary works on the 3D model in a 3D software were done properly first.

the little flaws is the hand of the space marine, I fixed it, i unfolded the model, I think its easy to make , but it has several small parts, but once I resize it, I think it would be easier, but it was like over 9000 pages for a 1:1 model.
>> Anonymous
I need the actual height of the bolter so I can resize it, anyone has it?
>> Anonymous
>>161302
What you need is a good grip size. Don't worry about the height of the bolter: make sure your the grip is the perfect size for your hand. If you don't know a smart way for doing working that out, just print+test and repeat until it's perfect.
>> Anonymous
ok, I'll do that, I think the 1:1 model will be like 50 pages, I would like som help to divide the pieces, there are some pieces that are bigger than the paper i don't know how to work it

i'm trying to delete the motherfuking hand that came togheter with the bolter but I just can't>.<
I HATE THIS HAND

btw: I'm thinking, If I finish the bolter, i thinking about making the whole suit, I just love warhammer 40k, I've never played, because in my crappy country it cost a fortune, but I am fascinated by the little models, and the pints and stuff :3

What 3D software are you using to delete the parts you don't need? In any 3D software I know, you can just select the polygons you don't want and press the Delete key.
For pieces that turn out larger than a sheet of paper: you need to re-model the 3D model so that the parts won't be larger than a sheet of paper anymore: now you have seen some of the problems you face, you need to plan the solution: break the model down into easily buildable sections in the 3D software instead of one big empty shell.
>> Anonymous
Breaking the models is not the problem, I can do this its just that takes a long time

I dont have any 3d software to delete this hand, do you guys recomend a good one? i dont have any experinece in modeling.

The preperational work does take a long time, so take that time to do it properly. That way, you can make a much better papercraft.
If I understand correctly, you haven't deleted the space marine in a 3D software, you've just hidden it in Pepakura.
There are many free 3D softwares on the interwebs, like Sketchup, Metasequoia, Blender... Any of these let you delete the parts you don't need (by object or by polygon by polygon if needs be) and will also let you re-model the 3D model so that it will be better suited for papercraft.

I tried blender but it doenst open 3ds files xD
I'll try another one so I can remodel some parts of the model.

fixed almost everything, isn't hard at all
what do you think about the grip size?
>> Anonymous

forgot the pics xP dumbass
I think it is in the right size, my hand is big, and the grip is big too, i think its good, what do you think? need to resize?

If you think it's right, then it's good. ;) If you can reach the trigger with your finger while you can hold your other fingers and thumb nicely around the grip, then it's the correct size for you. Use this scale as the scale for all other parts too.
In the 3D software, you can already plan ahead how you want to unfold the model in Pepakura: it is going to be big, so if you make it hollow, the sides will buckle and bend: remodel the model so that it will reinforce itself, or be prepared to make cardboard reinforce by hand afterwards.
Also make sure you connect all the edges and corners together properly or you'll see a lot of red lines in Pepakura (sometimes this can be fixed with the Join Adjacent isolated edges features, but not always, it's best to avoid problems if you can right?). Good luck!

Fixed all the problems in the template, started assembling, grip, magazine and the front grip is done too.

I think it's way too small. Space Marines are massive. They have massive hands. Add the power armor on top of that, and the grip would probably be 1.75 or even 2 times larger than what you've got now.
>> Anonymous
>>162275
You mean so large that you can't hold it anymore?
OP shouldn't make a bolter for a space marine with massive hands, but for a normal /po/rson like himself with normal hands. The whole idea to print it out for testing was too see if the grip would fit HIS hands. ;)
Of course later if OP decides to release it and you want to build it: scale it up to any size you like. ;)
>> Anonymous
OP here, as my first papercraft I'm going slow, the size of the grip is fine, I have already big hands, and the grip is large enough for the space marine, but a normal person can still hold it. all the main body is complete, and I am satisfied with the size, i tought bolters were larger, but turns out the are like SMG's, they have a small size, but they are thick.

I think the clip needs a little work.

i fixed all the flaws in the model,I'm test bulding it right now, it might take a while.

Normally I don't bother correcting people, and I hate to sound like a fucking douche /k/ommando, but GOD DAMMIT, it's called a magazine. A clip is used for carrying and loading rounds into the top of a rifle.
>> Anonymous
I almost did the same thing, I hate when people call it a clip >.<

Are you sure? One time, I was at Games Workshop, and one of their manic employees was screaming at a little girl about how the Boltgun fires bullets the size of popcans. All because the little girl said the guns were small, in reference to the actual size.

I think the Boltgun resembles a miniature rocket launcher more than real sub-machine gun.

Anyways, good luck with it. If you manage to complete it, I'm sure it will be very impressive.
>> Cotton Eyed Joe
>>162568
This is correct. A boltgun is basically a rapid fire, magazine fed, rocket propelled grenade launcher.
>> Anonymous
noo, i'm not saying the blotgun is a smg, I'm saying that the size on a space marine is like a smg, its small, mine is medium, the size of a m4 retracted or something.
>> Anonymous
its kind of funny that bolters would have zero accuracy in reality. who thought of short barrels?
