Hey there /po/. A little help here.

So I found the Yoshi and Samus models from SSB that were somewhere in my computer. The Samus one is fucked up or something I don't know, too many textures to put on in Pepakura. So I'll leave that to someone else [I think it's on /rs/, the folder's named 'samua'].
And so I did the Yoshi one instead.
Everything's going perfect, fixed the model, flipped sides, straightened it up in SketchUp, but for some really stupid reason that little motherfucking lower jaw right there, that one, I just can't separate it from the rest of the body. It's supposed to be white, but I can't put 2 textures on 1 bodypart, and it's connected to the body which is green.

Anyone? How do I fixed this?

joint adjacent isolated edge in pepakura designer.
does this work?
>> ecuabron
just a thought, why don't you just create the development, and then hand-paint the lower jaw in white. Use the fill tool in paint so the lines stay untouched. lookking forward for that yoshi, peace

Should be done in the step before Pepakura: when assigning textures (or I'm guessing just plain colors since you seem to be new at this) you can choose which polygons you want to assign a color/texture to. At least in normal 3D applications, and I know you can in SketchUp: you can basically use the "paint bucket tool", select a white color, then click with the paint bucket tool on the polygons of the jaw. SketchUp is THAT easy, yes.
It would mean you would have to go one step back first, but don't worry, if you continue making paperctafts you'll find that fixing flaws is worth it.

Nope, does nothing.

I thought about that [it's the only way I can apply the black nose lines since the texture is messed up], but when I click unfold the jaw is connected in folds with the rest.

>>121176
Aww, but it's so much easier to apply textures in Pepakura..
Anyway, say I do this and save it all, I tried looking around but I didn't find a way to extract the texture, bah. Where is it going to? I'm exporting in .3ds
Using the mac version if it's any different.

Don't use 3ds: it always gives me major problem with the textures. Use obj. Even then, since the makers of the game had to make the most of it, they cheated a bit and the texture map will need a little work. Textures should be extracted to the same folder as the model. Dunno why everybody has problems, you people sure your graphics card/emulator/plugin is up to it??
You're not applying textures with Pepakura. You're replacing an (un)existing texture with another one. Big difference, since applying means you have total control of how/where you apply the texture, which is what you want and what you can do in every basic 3D app, and replacing it means the UV coordinates are preset and you can't change them. They should never had made the 3D options in the new Pepakura version, now everybody thinks Pepakura is a modeller lol................

Joining isolated edges is when you're a bad modeller and you didn't weld the polygons properly (you'll see red lines between the polygons where there shouldn't be). If you didn't mess up TOO badly, Pepakura can try and brute-fix the gaps between the polygons for you. But again, it's better to just prepare your 3D model properly instead of trying to fix the flaws afterwards in a program that was designed to unfold, not to model.

where did these models come from/ I mean what outputted to a 3ds? did you get dxripper to work or something Lemmy's just makes those vrml thingies...

btw Im giving a shot at fixing mapping stuffs with sammus and yoshi. Just as soon as max loads... ... ... ... any day now... ... oh yea...

Im starting with sammus, I havent read the whole thread yet so I have no idea if you solved your problem.

K, I cleaned up Sammus (there are still intersecting objects... oh and its one mesh now... I dident detach the objects as it would be an extra (unnecessary?) step. any way enjoy...

The yoshi model in the pack is missing some textures. So I couldn't unify that map :::shruggs:::

finished yet?

It's not missing anything, it's just that you need to fix the shell texture to only 2 colors, and change the brown to red.

I didn't understand most of that post. Care to explain a little better please?

As far as I've got it, what you're saying is I need to rebuild the whole model myself, and apply the textures to each polygon there.
I don't know shit about SketchUp, at most I can try to mess hours on end to try fitting the textures on the model, then save it and go to Pepakura again. But like I said even if I did that I still can't find the button that extracts textures in SketchUp.

As you can see, nope. I could just press Unfold and get it over with [I did to check it's buildable, I think it's fine] but that damn lower jaw..

/po/ can not teach you people how to 3D model in two sentences, here's a step by step plan to try and figure it out yourself:
1. What software are you using?
2. Go to the homepage for that software.
3. Go to the support/tutorial section.
4. http://sketchup.google.com/gsu5vtviewer.html#id=20
5. Spend a year or so learning the basics of 3D modelling, before trying to make a papercraft right away, failing and ask every single step here on /po/.

More papercrafts, less "Which button do I need to click in the software I'm using?"
Seriously: everybody needs to pace down and not come running here when it takes more than two seconds to figure something out. That's the price you pay if you want to make papercrafts yourself: hueg amounts of time.

Gawd yes pls!!

How nice to be treated that way.

Look buddy, I'm not fucking stupid. I looked at those damn tutorials and I've asked a professional modeller [uses Maya and Blender though] what the hell do I do. I can't rebuild a whole model, I don't think I need to, I already fixed the model as much as I could, I spent not so little time too for fuck's sake.
I'm not bitching or bawwwing, but I could do nice with being told 'I don't know how to separate a damn part of a model for textures, sorry'.

We just figured you were stupid because you keep making no sense: you're failing to convey what the actual problem is you have.

You claim to have "texture problems". But then you start talking about "I need to seperate the jaw from the rest of the body." Wtf? You did all that research, talked to a professional modeler, and you did not pick up on the fact that one has nothing to do with the other?? You can easily put two(thousand if you want) textures on one and the same object (that's what the UV map is for: it tells which texture goes to which part of the object.

We don't know if you don't get how to select a bunch of polygons and then CTRL+X then CTRL+V them (that's how you cut a part, say a lower jaw, of a model and paste it in a new layer/object, or that you don't get how to apply textures to a model manually.

Really: we do not get what your problem is: tell us again, as clear as you can, and get rid of any self respect you have because we WILL make fun of you when trying to help you. That's just how 4Chan works. Laugh with us while we laugh at you, and don't take it all so seriously.
