Research/inspiration for when some /po/rson wants to design one.
When you start designing a papercraft, you should study the subject so you can come up with ideas about what shapes you'll need, how you can make them, what problems you foresee and how you may fix them.
Didn't you ever do, well... anything? ;) When you're with your girlfriend, be spontaneous. When making papercrafts, plan ahead and be organized and methodical.
The second approach works on girls sometimes too, the first approach doesn't work on designing papercrafts though.

OP here I have decided I am going to try and scratch build one. However I have never done it before and would like some advice if anyone has any
>> Anonymous

Time=money.
Maybe you must use the time searching a real one (buying a cheap one for example) instead building one from scratch.

buy one at an antique store.

well when I posted about building one it was more about just wanting to build one. I would be my first scratch build. Some of us are here for the fun of the build soooo time is not so important.

on that note bump for tips for first time scratch builders

lets see, if you wanna learn how to, maybe this helps you.

1.draw it, only previews, nothing of perspective proyections, better in free time and far away from computer, in class or bus. When you seat at computer tou will hace a good approach.

2. Simple model and simple tool, when you build 3D object try to have not so much polys and details, or you make the job twice, one from model, and other reduce poly count. I reccomend metasequoia.

3. in beginins dont use textures, when you make the model and built in paper without texture, you can sear a texture and make a new one, even you can paint the test built.

4. make it BIG. fot a pipe one page works fine.

5. divide the model in parts that fits naturaly, better in 3D model to fit well later, cillindrical shapes are a bit hard to joint if you use oly tabs, add a entire face. Personally I hate cut near acute angles or small pieces.

I hope this helps you ^^

Thank you very much. What program do you suggest for 3d shaping? Or is that what metasequoia is for?
>> Anonymous
>>141115
Yes metasequoia is for 3D making.
here you can download it, its LE verion is free.
http://www.metaseq.net/english/index.html.

To unfold you must use pepakura dessigner, I forgot it before.

Pepakura accepts metasequoia .mqo files,

Thanks is it all in moonspeak?

the official site has english portions but the install gives you the option for a complete english install. also, rapidsearch has keygens for pepakura designer.
>> Anonymous
>>141205
Do you have to pay for the english install cause the one I have symbols dont even come up
>> Anonymous
>>141211

don't really understand what you're saying...

there are two portions of pepakura, designer and viewer. viewer is what you print from and requires no serial for full access. designer is where you import/export and "unfold" your models. this requires a serial for full use and for saving. both are included in the same download.

when you install, the very first screen should give an "install language" message, with some moonspeak characters and a box underneath saying "other languages" or something to that effect. click that box and it'll say english, then go on with the rest of the install.

not quite sure what your question or prob is, hopefully that helped.
