It seems like they could be represented by two cross-imposed (lol making up terms) heightmaps, one for each plane. A height difference on one heightmap indicates either a cut (if perpendicular to the other plane) or a fold. If a cut, the length of the cut to be made is proportional to the height difference.
Blah, I'm rambling. And I have enough projects already, but it would be pretty cool to write a program to output templates based on some kind of multi-perspective heightmap UI.
It'd get complicated really fast though, like only being able to slope downward, and curves and stuff make it ickier. Maybe when Anonymous is all grown up and has too much free time...
