Squirrels! Anonymous
Anyone have a cute squirrel papercraft to share? I'm having a hard time finding one. Thanks.

I think I have more than one. It will take a moment because I'll have to scan them in. Would you like for me to scan in the folds/symbols instructions at the beginning of the book as well?

Here's a picture of the squirrel that appears on the front cover. It's origami, so I don't know if that will work for you or not. I'll also warn you that it isn't simple origami, either. It gets pretty complicated, but it's not as bad as some and the final result is well worth it.

I'm a beginner so complex origami models would be a bit harder for me. Looking more for something to build like a model because I'm pretty good at making models. Still, post the squirrel if you have the time. It's really nice looking and even if I fail at it, others might enjoy. Instruction would be helpful too. Thank you!

This book is called Origami Zoo that I got this squirrel from. There's a bunch of folds at the beginning that they give names to, so if you don't memorize that part, or at least the lines that indicate pleats, mountain folds, and valley folds, then it can become complicated.

When I first bought this book around 10 years ago, I didn't have a lot of luck with any of the animals in the book. I find it a lot easier now, so I would be willing to help you wherever you get stuck. Also, you'll probably want to save any nice paper for when you do understand the entire process, because some of these don't look as nice when folded excessively. That can be a bit of a pain sometimes.

Now I'm off to scan in the pages for the folds.

There are quite a few things to scan along with the actual squirrel, and there's also some interest on this board for being able to see the whole book, so I'm going to go offline for now and scan the book in. Someone finally got me back into the swing of using my scanner. I might have everything ready tonight. It depends on how much I feel like doing it.

Great, thanks again for all of the effort and scans!

I don't like Origami Zoo so much because teh diagrams are all white. I prefer the white/gray diagrams.

Read what the first page of the squirrel origami instructions says. The paper is supposed to be colored the same on both sides for a nice looking squirrel. But if you don't have any, there is a way to get one that's predominantly colored. That's why, in this set of instructions, the two authors opted to not use the white/grey technique, because it's all grey.

Also, they use the golden standard for origami instructions in this one, though I don't really like how they refer you back to earlier parts of the book all the time. But it is a pretty good way to protect against copyrights, unless you're insane enough, like I am, to scan in and post the entire book. I haven't completed this yet, but I'm working on it. The squirrel is found halfway through the book, so it's difficulty could be considered about half or a little less than what is found towards the end. I think the eagle is near the back. Yep, pages 104-109 cover the eagle. That's a lot of pages for the origami in this book. If you want a set of instructions for an animal that has the white/grey instructions, then look for the tiger thread and the origami lion. It's from the same book. The telltale rapidshare link should give it away.
