Lenticular Images Joey
Hey, it's Joey. Creator of Kiki/Jiji and the only person (to my knowledge) to have completed the large Howl's Moving Castle.

I'm writing to /po/ today to see if anyone can help. I want to make a motion print using a Lenticular Lens (the kind that has grooves on it). You have seen this technique on cereal boxes and on little motion cards many times over the years.

I Plan on creating a Stargate Wormhole to go into a 12" model (but could be used in the 6" papercraft one). The model was assembled from pieces included with the SG-1 figures by Diamond Select Toys. I got a quote from a shop that could do this but it would end up being about $36/set (3 different inserts) of what I want to do and that is with 100 sets being ordered. I really think this is something that could be done with a printer and the lens (provided I find a source to purchase the lens). I have seen software that will create the image needed, but it would probably be easy to create it in photoshop (not easy but for only 3 it would be alot cheaper).

Anyway if anyone is familiar with the technology or can help any any way, I would appreciate it.

what is the software called that would create this image for you? If i can see a fin pic i can tell you how easy it would be in photoshop (been working in photoshop for over 6 years)

PrintPro 2.0 from http://www.humaneyes.com (mac only) is one piece of software but I'm a PC user so that does me no good. If I find a different piece of software I'll let you know. There is a difference in what lense/print configuration you use based on whether it is 3d, or an animation and if an animation it varies based on number of frames.

Joey, is there a Big Lots! store near you? I was just at big lots and they have a kid's "3D spiderman" activity book that comes with a 8.5" x 11" lenticulaar lens. The book has a whole bunch of images that you lay the lens over to create the 3d effect. This is obviously high-tech stuff and can be had for the princely sum of $1.....

I went to the place that used to be big lots here in Fargo, ND but it has become a Savers (a crappy 3rd hand store) and they had nothing. I did find a company that might be able to supply me with the lens for a reasonable price so I am looking into it.
