I'm making a papercraft (not telling what it's gonna be yet) that has a ponytail and I can do the ponytail like a closed tube, or just several strips of paper (like Mizuirogakuen used to do on girls with long hair) to form the ponytail?

That open head looks... horrible. ;)
My idea was to make the hair like you normally would, just a head with textures on it, then attach the ponytail to the back, so the head would be closed.
And then the ponytail would either be several tubes to make the shape of the ponytail, or just several strips of paper as if they were the locks of hair that form the ponytail. But only one side, so the bottom of the "hairs" would remain white (there are gonna be a few more parts like that anyway).

Can you give any clue as to what the hair is supposed to look like? As in cropped reference pictures or something (not revealing the whole model, since you don't want us to know what it is yet)

If you're going to do the ponytail with many "locks", then I suggest the strips of paper option, but if it's going to be just one piece of locks, then the tube one. In any case, many little tubes sounds a bit too much for any model and would probably become too complicated.

So one big tube or many thin strips, I say.

I was thinking about having seven "locks," I'd need to see if that's enough to recreate a nice ponytail when I do a testbuild.
But when I had these seven locks, the way they were arranged almost formed a "tube" like ponytail that actual looks really nice. So now I'm leaning more towards that option.
The model has some bangs as well, which I do intend with the "strip" method, so I thought it would be nice to do the ponytail in the same style. But I think a "solid" tube like ponytail won't really clash with the different style bangs.
I will make it so that the "tubes" won't be very difficult to build of course, I'll find out if I succeeded when I do the test build. ;)
I think it'll be 3 or 4 tubes, it's going to be stylized, the hair effect will come with the texturing rather than the tubes themselves.
