I would like some tips from origami veterans on the boards on how to make the perfect rose. I have a pretty good model I'm going to use, but do you have any advice regarding paper, technique, or adding a little extra flavor?

How the heck do I make this!? Is it the paper that looks so shiny and rich, or is that glaze of some kind? I know that it's Kawasaki's Rose, 2nd Edition by Winson Chan, but how do I craft the sepals? Gah, it's so pretty! I must have it!

Glossy paper looks nice, but is often hard to glue. There are many ways to achieve the shine. Many types of sprays and glazes will work.

wet folding works well with the roses. And if you are making kawasaki's rose be sure to precrease accurately and well. you can buy 'rose' folding paper from japanese bookstores or art supply shops. People use them just to make origami roses. Just be sure to find one large enough to make this one and not just the elementary rose bud.

I swear the v2 Kawasaki rose is ridiculously more complex than the normal one.

I ain't no veteran folder, but LaFosse's book, Advanced Origami has some guidance on wet folding, paper making and generally adding your own touches. Some public libraries carry it.

If you can trek your way through the first one, every one after that is rather easy.
