This is sort of related to papercraft.

I just moved into a new house and it has this really gross floral wallpaper border. I don't want to buy/rent a wallpaper remover since it's only a border and I've heard warm water mixed with fabric softener work pretty well.

Does /po/ have any home remedies?

pic. related if you have good answers.

Rented a steamer a short time ago, it took all the paint off my wall, too, so I had to plaster like crazy before I could paint over it. DO NOT use a steamer.

I used the fabric softener, here's how to do it:
-Buy a GOOD fabric softener, Downy was what I used. Bargain brands are not very effective...
-Clear away your furniture and remove any fixtures (outlet covers, light switch covers).
-Lay down some towels or old blankets at the base of your wall to absorb the inevitable mess.
-Mix up a bucket with 1/2 fabric softener, 1/2 hot water. NOT tepid, NOT warm, HOT water.
-Get a good scrub sponge and use it to soak the wall. The wetter you can get the wall, the better, so it may take two applications of the solution.
-Get a good paint scraper and have at it. Some patches will be harder than others, but I had gigantic strips of it peeling away at some points.

all you need is hot water in a spray bottle to dissolve the glue, then use a 2-3" mudding knife to scrape it off once the paper soaks up the water. DONE!
