Cutting mat.
Craft knife.
Some sort of glue.
Printer paper is fine.

You can acquire everything you need at an art store.

Seriously? Print paper is fine? I thought thicker paper was easier to work with.

Cutting mat, craft knife. About 15 bucks. Other than that, you prolly have Elmers, printer paper is fine, but thicker paper helps when you get into more complex papercraft. Thicker paper doesnt rip as easily, and it warps less, but when your just starting out with cieling cat and snake in a box, they are too simple to really matter much.

Being an origamist, I would say do origami, because it's a lot easier imo. All you need is paper, books, and an ability to read diagrams.
