FFXI Goblin Anonymous
Right now I'm in the process of making the parts as easy to build as possible. As you can see, I've got a page of the bags on his back, half of a page for his buckets, and his arms at the bottom-right. Man this is time-consuming. Whenever I get through making the templates, I'll try it out. If it works, I'll release.

This is my first model, so wish me luck.

Maybe you can use this as reference? ;)
Doesn't have the rucksack, but does show you how to "simplify" the model to make it easy to build.

Figures it's already been done before. Yeah, I'm nowhere near done with the templates, and it will be a lot easier than right now when it's done. Most of what you're seeing in the picture is the result of an auto-unfold.

That kills me that it's already been done, though mine will have the stuff on the back and the actual textures.

lol it shouldn't. ;)
So you had a great idea that you thought would be fun to do, and so you could have your own paper goblin, a character you like very much I assume. And I'm also assuming you're having fun making your own template (even if it is time consuming). If you're not having fun, you shouldn't continue; that's the only really important part. ;)
And besides, on the site it says: I'll add the rucksack later, but that's been there as long as I can remember.............

I am having fun, actually. It wasn't until I had posted this thread that I realized 4 hours had passed since I started editing the 3D model. And now it's been 5 hours. I'm losing track of time.

don't forget to sleep from time to time ;)

And eat too. I had a friend who used to get so engrossed in his art that he'd forget to eat. He can't do that anymore. His body won't allow it. He ate a whole loaf of bread once after forgetting to eat for a day or two. I think that was at 1 am on some weekday. The door was open to his dormroom, and there he was, in the center of the floor eating bread.

Update: Templates are done! Comes to a grueling total of 12 pages. If I successfully build this, I'll make the templates more understandable (some of the parts are just thrown around with no particular order or labeling). Everything's looking good so far!

Have I told you lately that I love you? Because I do.

Fucking DO WANT!!!

Update: Got the arms, lower part of the head, and two bags for his back done. Everything's looking possible.

I have noticed that there are about 3 textures on the entire model (not what I've done so far) that are messed up. I'll see what I can do about fixing them, but they might not be fixed at all.

This is so full of win. Can't wait until you finish with it~

Update: Got the head completed, and the main part of his rucksack is done.

OP here. I'd like to release this when it's done, it's just I've been having to constantly check the .pdo to see where certain parts go. I can try to label the parts and you can attach one to another in order like that. Think you guys can go without instructions?
>> Anonymous
>>54322
Er, detailed instructions, that is.
>> Anonymous
>>54322
If you don't make detailed instructions, we're gonna have to, right? ;)
It's no reason not to release it, though. So some people will be able to build it easily, others, with difficulty, and others won't be able to build it. That's the way it is. And if the people who aren't able to build it without detailed instructions come complaining: just tell them you're sorry, but that's the way it is. It's as simple as that.
>> Anonymous
>>54324
I wasn't asking, per say, I was just letting you know that mine won't be top-quality. Alright then. My instructions will be bare-bones simple.

"Think you guys can go without instructions?"
Could've fooled me... ;)
Release what you want when you're finished, /po/ is always happy with new papercrafts.

Heheh. I actually meant I wasn't asking you guys to make instructions.

Sorry for the quick hijack, but does anyone have a Taru .pdo? Maybe a BLM?
Is there a FFXI /po/ site?
>> Anonymous

I think the only FFXI models are Chokipetas (so rare that you'll never get them), the first goblin, and my goblin.

Though I was planning to do a Taru once I'm finished with the goblin.

Cool, just a basic taru though?

That's all the pages to the model. I found the Taru papercraft on paperkraft.blogspot.net and the rapidshare link had the same 3 pages in it.

And here's a picture from the paperkraft site to help with putting it together.
