When photographing these things to produce the best illusion, not only do you you have to find the right angle to view it, it also helps if you back off a distance and use a telephoto lens. Or you can use a lens that's telecentric in the object space (if you don't know what that means, never mind.) Both tricks tend to "flatten" perspective cues that could queer the illusion.
