Hello /po/eple.
I know you hated MOAI for never providing diagrams, but what is your general though on these chinese unit models?

Pic related, it's my own. Just finished it.
Took about 10 hours total cutting, folding and assembling.

If you want to make your own, http://www.opane.com/swan.html has an instruction.
This video helped me a lot, too.

Does anyone here have some nice diagrams btw?

I've made a few of these before, I have a little book on them. My first one was a sort of crane in flight type creature. Then I made a penguin with a bowtie and a totally sweet hat, that I gave to a friend as she moved away. Finally I made the lighter colored peacock in the pic, but mine was white with gold trim. Gave it to a special someone for a Christmas present one year. And it took me something like a month of working on it off and on.

Whoops, turns out my book is somewhere else, as it's not with my origami books. Thankfully a quick google search turned up this and another pic.

Now in case you cannot read the Nippon moonspeak, this page is for making the chest, main body, and neck/head of the peacock. Each triangle represents one of the pieces, and the second page has a picture of what what it has to face to work. Light color with the light ones, dark with dark, etc. Each row has a number, that's the number of pieces you need. Dunno how many for the neck. Enough to make it look good.

Pic two of two. This one is for the tail, which'll get mounted onto the thing you made off of page 1. The stuff at the bottom is for a ring/stand for it.

Personally I'd advise against making this thing. Sure, it looks awesome in the end, and if you give it to anyone god damn are they impressed (as is everyone around them). But they fall apart rather easily, the one I made has since fallen into a state of disrepair, and they're exceedingly boring to make. You have to make that little triangle thing 299 times for the body/chest, probably another 30-40 to make the neck, and then 93 for the base/stand, and finally 853 for the tail. This brings the grand total up to.... 1285 triangles, roughly. It's a pain basically.
