People keep asking about tools like this, tools that can reduce polygons, tools that can texturize stuff, tools that can make 3D models when you show them a 2D picture... The truth is there are no shortcuts. If you want to make a good paper model you will have to put a lot of time and effort in it.
Computers are pretty stupid: it cannot work out how to best model/reduce the polygon so it can be easily made into a papercraft so real human beings can easily build it. Even Pepakura, the program that was made for exactly that purpose will spew out something completely unbuildable if you don't take control yourself (unless you're building a cube, Pepakura is pretty good with cubes). If you want to try making paper models with Ppeakura, you WILL have to get into 3D modelling a little. But hey: just by messing around a little with the program of your choice, you'll soon enough pick up all the bare basics that you'll ever need for papercraft 3D modelling, and it can actually be fun.
