Just letting you know that last week was a living hell for me (an average of 14 daily hours in school) so no mayor improvement was made, so, seeing that the constant spam atacks made my thread to disapear, I'm here tonight to inform you that tonight some improvements were made, but it wont be until saturday that I'll have some true spare time...

Personally I was thinking about giving them another try, but if you like the result I may better try to move along and design the arms... I even have an idea for the hair already:

I was thinking about something like a little broom, with a large stick and the tip of the hair at the end, and then make the diferent layers of hair that would paste to the stick one over the another. This should be done with a lighter paper, or maybe some paper mache (I don't know if its called like that in english, light semitransparent paper, used in piñatas here in Mexico)

Little update, trying to get some suggestions:
For the shoulders, I'm thinking about making them plain shoulders with the armor simply pasting over it, should be easy to build and wouldn't get in the way of pasting everything else, you could simply attach them when finished.
Also, the copling shoulder (fuck the name, the thing at the far right) I'm thinking of making it like this, so you can make the arm without having to worry to much about how will it be pasted to the body, and you could make the copling easier.
Any ideas to make the design more efficient?

I did a square peg-hole on my Sniper Joe hand and I gotta say, it was waaaay easier to make him hold his shield. Just try not to overcomplicate things and you'll be good.

Also, and I mean this constructively, but the boots could use a little rounding. Maybe it's just the angle of the screenshot, but they seem a little thin and flat...

I was looking at the updated pics from Friday, and the boots still seem sort of conical, rather than ovoid... if that made any sense, I don't know.

Your ref pic from>>188323shows the boots widen a little above the ankle before narrowing at the knee, but it's hard to tell from the angle of your most recent screen shots. It doesn't really matter, especially since you're keeping it low-poly.

You know, I just don't feel like making anything new at the moment, so I may just go back and fix him up to release...

As long as the nipples seem like they would be easy enough to build, then go ahead and keep them like they are. They would work nice on a larger model, say one that is at least 16in. or 40cm tall. Once the character gets smaller than 12in./30cm, then the green "man nips" are going to be a bit difficult to put together. At that point, they could either be two flat pieces pasted over the chest or just a texture on the chest piece itself.

The decisions you're starting to make on this model would depend on how tall the finished product will be, so it looks like now would be a good time to decide on how tall /po/ would like the finished product to be. Since Zero has pretty wild hair, and his blade can also add to his height, let's just omit those from the height for the time being.

I forgot to say that I like this hand. It reminds me of Zero's sword hand when he's holding the blade towards the ground while standing.
If the hand gets too small, the "steps" in the upper-left part of the picture may become difficult to build. You may have to substitute a ramp/inclined plane for the steps if this happens.

Thanks for the critics, you know, when you model something (at least in my case, as this is the first thing I model) you start making it look nice and forgetting to make it to resemble to the actual thing... objectively looking at it, yep, it needed more rounding...

Time for the last update for tonight...
-legs fully corrected
-various sets of hands added, in some photos zero is lefty and in other ones he's righthanded, so I leave the desision on you. you can chose him to not to be holding the sword, to hold it horizontally or to hold it downwards (looks more elegant, but I couldn't make the hand to be as easy to build as the horizontal one) or to be holding even two swords. get wild, I don't care.
Now, to the sword:
Its just a sketch, I know that Zero's sword is not like that, but being realistic, making the plasma sword would be hard as hell, and no one would try to build it anyways, so, in the other hand, we got the sword pole (the one of megaman x6)
I preffer that one, but made the sketch with this improvised style just in case there's anyone who doesn't want zero to be holding just a green pole.
So? what do you think?

Well /po/, Tomorrow a new school week starts, so this is the last update for the weekend.
---Today I started the head, it needs a lot of work still, though. it still looks like some trash can, and of course I don't want to release it like that.
---I also started checking compatibility with pepakura, and corrected a lot of inner lost polygons, so there are no red lines in there (well, except for the shoulders, but they are suposed to be pasted anyway)

does anyone know of any program that could make easier the texturing? I really don't feel like choosing the right textures for each face, and pepakura often spoils them anyway when imported from google earth, so any sugestions on texturing and/or the model itself will be appreciated.

Sketchup texturing is very limited. One workaround I have found is to actually draw on all the detail you want, zoom in on the face, export as A jpg, delete all detail off of face, then import the jpg and use that as A texture.

Today the leg joints were added, started texturing (fuck, sketchup texturing sure is slow) the legs and fists, the helmet was corrected some cylindrical issues and added the nose. reduced polycount a little and corrected some dimensions.

I have no problems exporting, What I want is to give the model a recolor, and export it with the red suit and the black one, 'cause It'd be reeeeeally annoying to me to export it red, unfold it, and the recolor it, export it again and unfold it... again.
I've unfolded several papercrafts yet, and believe me, it takes SHITLOADS of time... It would be much more comfortable for me to just unfold it once and for anyone that wants to build it to just have one file with both textures...

If you have all the polygons textured (and therefore UV mapped), you can just select any jpg or bmp image in Pepakura to replace the existing textures.

Sounded to me like you couldn't get all the textures exported.


In order to be able to change the textures you want in pepakura the parts you want to change has to be A seperate component or object. For example, you want to change the boot color from red to black. You have to make just the colored part of the boot into a component, that way you can select just that part under texture options in pepakura. Hopefully this makes sense to you, it does in my head....LOL

Not necessarily, Sketchup doesn't do A very good job of actually mapping textures. Even if it's mapped in Sketchup when you try to change it with another texture in pepakura it will apply the texture to each individual face.

That's the part which makes me think the model isn't properly textured, but colored (and maybe only some of the logos are images put on the model. So when you just try to change the textures, Pepakura doesn't know what to do because some polygons have been texture (mapped) and others haven't (the ones that are just assigned a color) so it tries to make the best out of it lol...

about everyone else that kindly answered to my request, yes, most of the polygons are colored and just a percentage is textured. for example, the yellow bar in the boots, and part of the white tip in the shoes, are textured, but the rest is plain red and white. the texture consists (in both cases) of a square half red and half yellow (or white) placed in the way that each color margin meets the color margin of the adjacent face. What I would want to do, is to just change the red zones in the textures and recolor the black faces, and then select among those two textures in pepakura. Is it possible? I'm going to try it tomorrow (today wont go home) but I'd be really gratefull if somebody could at least give me a sketch on how to do this...

If you want changeable textures just export as a 3ds file to your desktop(what I do) your texture files will be there as well, just make sure you keep the originals intact. Make copies of those textures and seperate them from the originals than recolor as needed. In Pepakura replace textures like normal.

Personally I don't mind about editing just every little texture image, but it would be a pein in the ass to select everyone of them in pepakura if you wanted to change them... What I'd really like to be able to do, is to just select among "Normal Zero", "Absolute Zero" and I don't know, maybe experiment a little with the colors and release some custom colors too (I know, It'd be riddiculous, but I don't know, maybe somebody would like to have Zero in other color...?)

recoloring seems to be working out well, I'll try to make it easier, though...
just a simple question: I tried to export as 3ds like 30 times, but everytime crappy pepakura just imported black faces, and gave no chance of importing the textures... luckily, google earth format came to the rescue, and working together, I could use the textures exported with the 3ds and the google earth model to redo the textures.
anyway, is there a faster way to change the textures apart of selecting every single one of them?

Shit /po/, it was MUCH harder than I thought it could possibly be...
first he looked crosseyed, then the eyes weren't looking at the front, but one side each one, then they were way down the place they should be, then up...
and with the muth, fuck those two lines... tried like 8 diferent ways, and he always ended with a wide stupid smile... I think I corrected those problems already... I'll see if all the textures are ready yet to start the recoloring, and hopefully the unfolding.

also, could you post those eyes? I just found tiny zero pictures, and did my best to draw them alike, and also already corrected them a little since last pic (see pic) but maybe with yours it'd look much better...
also, the angle makes the spike looks that way...

I'm pretty sattisfied with zero as it is now, let me update you:
--- face corrected even more, didn't use the original eyes, maybe I'll add them as an alternate texture when released
--- every fist corrected unconected faces and corrupted textures
--- removed inner polygons on fists to make building easier
--- added final textures in torso vents, back (the part where the sword rests) belt (front and back) and lowered polycount even a little more
--- added a third sword mode: given the case that you think that the plasma scimitar is way to hard to try and you don't like the pole one, you can just make the holder and paste it in the back. it's smaller to fit well in there (no pun intended). The other swords were left the same size to not to overcomplicate building.
---Decided to not to add the extra polygons to the hair. extra hair parts was very likely to confuse not experienced pepakura users, and would get in the way of seeing the rest of the parts. also, the final product could be done easier by other ways.
---As for me, I'll start the unfolding with the model shown, unless you have something to recomend me to make it even better. I'll upload some more photos of other angles so you can suggest what to correct.
--- final product will include Absolute Zero suit (the Black Zero), including the purple sword and grayish hair.

seconded, no matter how much you change it there will always be somebody that doesn't like it and want you to change something. Yeah, I know that, but you need critic eyes to see what your desiner eyes cant. There are mistakes that one can't see by himself, and receiving critics (and taking the important ones) helps you grow, and personally to achieve a better model :D
remember that this is my first model, and I've dedicated so much time to it that I don't want it spoiled just because I didn't take my time to check for mistakes...

first of all: sorry to keep you waiting this long, school's being particularly bitchy last days...
anyway, I've found some holes in my agenda to make the last improvements:

seriously, it's just like the half of polygons now, and still looks awesome (to me, at least, modesty apart :D)
---tried to add the other mouth. problem is, that this is not a 2D figure, so the other mouth bent upwards when applied, so it looked like a deformed smile. tried to put it exclusively in a side of the face (kind of like in super champions, captain Tsubasa, super campeones, olive et benji, I don't know how you name it) but it still looked... strange...
anyway, I'm gonna add that texture too, so if you want to try it, its your choice...
---stray polygons for the saber added, so you can paste them there (see the little triangles under the pole-sword?)
I'm gonna start unfolding as soon as possible, but right now I have a lot of homework to do...

Eyes look great now; everything is gorgeous. I originally wanted to say that the thighs should be more cylindrical and less conical, but in the latest pic, they balance really well with the upper body.

The only reason you should need a password is if you made changes and want to save it or export it or something.

The "password" is really the Liscense Key under Help -> Password
If you want that, google it. Otherwise, you really don't need it.
