I saw some old color WWI photos a few months ago, but lost the link. Really great stuff. People forget that color prints existed a long time ago but were just not economical or easy.

Kodachrome, fuck yeah! Just got a nice stack of it for myself and I'm bracing for awesome (and 4 weeks processing + posting turnaround times from Dwayne Photo).

<- The Monastery of St. Nil on Stolobnyi Island in Lake Seliger in Tver Province, by Sergey Prokudin-Gorsky, 1910. Hueg version also on Wikipedia. You wish you could have topped this one up, but you can't, so don't even try.

nice find but the choices aren't ideal.

Digital ID: fsac 1a34540 Source: digital file from original transparency
Retrieve higher resolution JPEG version (111 kilobytes)
Retrieve uncompressed archival TIFF version (197 megabytes)

197 megs to be resized to /hr/ quality?
>> Old Colour Pictures Anonymous
Dont know why they do that, this is not for family presentations - its right from the archive - the give u the raw stuff and a little preview...

The Tiff's ROCK!!

Auguste and Louis Lumiere patented the Autochrome Lumiere color film in 1903. Here's some of their stuff of WWI. Mostly French stuff and only happy, "uplifting" photos since they were contracted by the French gov't. This is also around when the U.S. outlawed the photography of any dead U.S. soldiers because it was thought to hurt the war effort too much. Fucking censorship.

Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away

You and me together, brother in /p/.

It is a happy world where you can just drop by a local store and get yourself a nice roll of Kodachrome.

Oh, I didn't even look at the picture.

I thought you were wistfully expressing, "If only there was a world I could walk down the street and buy Kodachrome," and I was making a joke off that about Manhattan.

Good for you. Umm... I'm going to guess Germany?
