Anonymous recently had a very bad experience with weather and his D80(w/nikkor 18mm-135mm lens). Fortunately I got an extended warranty, so it's being repaired and I should get it back in a few days. When I do, I intend on buying some body armor for it.

I don't know much about camera prophylactics, so I need /p/'s help. There seem to be a couple different types of protective covers - underwater covers (by far the most expensive), generic "waterproof" covers (that specifically say they shouldn't be used for underwater photography), and giant rubber/hard plastic tank armor that doesn't specify whether it's waterproof or not. Option 1 is probably too expensive for anonymous. Option 2 is what I was originally looking for, but disclaimers about not being completely waterproof worry me. Option 3 is a throwback to older, tougher cameras, and definitely seems like a good idea, but is bulky, pricey, and may or may not be waterproof.

Can /p/ recommend any specific product to me? Case needs to waterproof and in the poor man's pricerange. Additional lens protection would be ideal, but not necessarily a must.

Do you intend to actually take your camera underwater? If not, then option 2 is probably the way to go if it's just going to get extremely wet. Otherwise, go with option 1 or just get an old Nikonos and use that instead.

I made a waterproof container for my camera out of a dry bag and some acrylic. I wouldn't take it under water for extended periods, but it survived a couple tests in my bath tub and works well for caving.

Since when does any warranty cover water damage?

Even my extended warranty for my D200 doesn't cover accidental damage like drops or water etc. Just things like shutters failing etc
