Hey, /p/.

I'm rarely ever in here, so I don't even know of this is a common question/frowned upon/whatever, but I'm not really caring much, to be honest.

Anyway, my birthday's coming up and I'm thinking I want a camera, but I've got absolutely no idea which one to "want."

Price range probably around $300~ or so, what are some of the better/best camera's?
No SLR's, just a digital camera to stick in a bookbag that can take a slight beating and go wherever just so I have a relatively good camera around on hand.

Here's hoping you're like /c/ and are actually nice.

And, er, thanks to a slight clicking error on my part last thread was deleted.

Anyway, also updated with a picture I've actually taken, albeit with the shitty camera on my phone.
Image is of B.A.R.T. on Wright State Uni.'s campus.

Most cameras in the Canon Powershot A series.

Most Panasonic "LUMIX" cameras.

Check http://www.dpreview.com for thorough, reliable reviews.

Danke, I'll check around there and read a few things.

I'll check into it, if nothing else half the pricepoint is a good thing.

If you just want a small P&S to take snapshots, get the cheapest one available. If you feel you'll be interested in getting into photography in the future, get an entry-level DSLR. The difference is huge.

Seconded. This thing's awesome, just picked one up a few days ago.

Ehhhh. Not so much. I had a Lumix before the Canon. Not enough options, and the zoom motor was made of cheap plastic. Shit broke a couple days after the warranty ran out.

I however have the Lumix TZ1 and can't recommend it enough. I have it for nearly two years now. 10k pictures later, I still say I'm very happy with it. With a sturdy metal body, it can take a beating. Goodluck finding one though, I say the present models are not up to par.
