Anyone have experience with the Sigma 30mm f/1.4? I'm looking to make this my next lens, but i wanted input first. I know 30mm isn't a great focal range to work with, but does the f/1.4 make up for it?

The ~50mm focal range *is* a great range to work with.

needs less crappy 3rd party lens maker

It must suck to be too stuck up to be able to enjoy a 50/1.4 on a crop camera.

i use sigma30mm on nikon and it's my favorite creative lens. 30mm on 1.6 crop is near a normal length, so i don't see why it wouldn't be a great range. if things cannot stay still, take many shots because you'll have to throw many away that are too soft at the faster stops. i have a d40 and this is the only AF fast lens that's reasonable to get. i don't see any issue with the quality myself. if you read about focus problems, i think it's due to DOF so shallow that it's too easy to be off. just slight movments of anything between focus and shutter will skew things at 1.4. i wish it focused a bit closer.

50mm 1.4 is comming soon, perhaps available now, i have not looked. not sure if i would want a 50mm prime on a 1.6 though.

50 is great on a 1.6x for portraits.. for a canon body, the ef 50mm f/1.4 is unbeatable for the price.. the sigma 50 apparently isnt worth the $500 price point after reading reviews

Dude, if you want substandard choices, go for the gold. Get the digital-only lens or the Sigma that'll start having problems in six to twelve months. I understand that my view isn't held by all, nor should it be, I suppose. It's just a product of necessity.
>> you again?
it's not a very good lens and way overpriced

I've had a Sigma 30mm on my 450D for about a month now I've had no issues so far.

Although as>>238495said, it would be better if it focused to objects closer than 15.7 inches.

Anyone used the 28mm sigma? its 1.8, wide and fast.

Im thinking of getting it BUT does it autofocus? What does F mount mean?? Im sorry im new and a bit shit.
>> Anonymous
>>238762

it won't autofocus if you have a d40/d60
>> Anonymous
>>238768

wait actually

someone explain this

that sigma lens DOES have a built-in motor because it will autofocus for Canon

but why won't it autofocus for a d40?
>> Anonymous
>>238762

why would anyone buy the nikon f1.8 50mm when you can have this 28mm which has macro too?
>> Anonymous
okay, i did some googling

and the d40/d60 autofocus with HSM lenses from Sigma

i understand that, that's cool

but what about the non HSM models? as far as i know, they all autofocus with Canon bodies

but NONE of the Canon bodies have focus motors in them, exactly like the d40/d60

so does that mean that SOME non HSM Sigma lenses can autofocus with them?

...actually, i am a seperate person. I just wanted to hijack the thread with a more interesting question. All the reviews say the 30mm sigmas a pile of shit on nikon camera, but that the 28mm is great on anything with a focussing pin (D80 upward).

So is there anything horrible i should know about the sigma 28mm 1.8 before i buy it?
>> Anonymous
>>238861

sigma 30/1.4 > nikon 28/2.8 > sigma 28/1.8
>> Anonymous
>>238861
It's fucking huge, focuses slowly, and there's a ton of sample variation so you might get a shit copy. Unless you need the extra width or macro, consider the Nikkor 35mm f/2.

>>238861

get the 30mm f/1.4 its freakin great
