Good evening /p/ I come to you in search of council.

I'm in need of a point and shoot digital camera but don't know enough about them to go shopping around for a good one.

I'm pretty flexible regarding features, all I ask is for not totally garbage macro and a minimum of 7 MP.

My budget is around 200 dollars plus whatever a 1G memory card and an extra battery cost me.

I've been looking at these two so far:

What do you think? Any suggestions?

The Casio. From personal experience (work for a retailer), their censors are holding par with the big boys. Sure you don't get the Carl Zeiss glass, but its a just a point&shoot.

Plus it uses SD cards, instead of Sony's proprietary mess Memory Stick Pro Duo, which is going to be cheaper on you.

I'd recommend the graflex in OP's pic.

Of the two, I'd recommend Casio just because I have a strong dislike of Sony. If for no other reason, the Memory Stick flash standard is teh suck. Nobody but Sony uses it--and despite that, they've come up with like eighteen variations on it with varying levels of compatibility--which means that they're gonna be more expensive than something that takes SD or CompactFlash.

That being said, the Casio is fail as well (notably, its maximum aperture is worse than the Sony's, which means it'll handle worse in low light situatations). I'd recommend getting yourself a Canon PowerShot A-series camera.

OP here. The A570 any good?

I'm reading the specs and liking it so far, only real drawback is the AA batteries. Does Anon know of a good alternative to that with a rechargeable lithium? I can afford to go a bit over budget.

Now I'm looking at these:

Pretty much all of the A-series is good.

You can get rechargeable AAs. I've got two sets that I use in my flashes. The fact that it uses AAs can actually be seen as an advantage since it means that you can go down a store pretty much anywhere and pick up a fresh set in a pinch if your rechargeables run out.
