I've done some research on my own, but I'm wondering which lens /p/ prefers when it comes to wide angle zooms. The body I'm using is XTi/400D and the lenses I'm considering are the Canon 10-22, Tokina 12-24, and the Sigma 10-20. I know how much /p/ loves gear threads, so I know you'll have no problem giving me your opinion!

I need a wider angle lens because currently I only have the shitty kit lens and the 60mm macro. Following photos related, they're from my cousin's wedding.

Canon 10-22 > Sigma 10-20 > Nikkor 12-24 > Nikkor 14-24 > Zuiko 7-14 > Tokina 12-24 > Sigma 12-24 > Canon 17-40 > Canon 16-35 > Zuiko 11-22 > Tokina 11-16 > Tamron 11-18

Optical quality, build quality, price, use, "what you get/price" ratio accounted for.

oh wow, did you really use the 60/2.8 for these

yeah, the problem was I had to be about 15 feet away since I'm on a crop sensor.

Thanks, any particular reason why the Tokina isn't rated higher?

i must say... well done!
that's pretty accurate.

The 11-16?

Because I think it's stupid for an ultra wide lens to be f/2.8 and sacrifice focal length to be only 11-16.

And it costs more than the others.

nice photos!

I would say get the canon 10-22. I owned one, they hold their value too. I ended up selling it for $50 more than I bought it.

Well, I know which choice I'm leaning towards more now but why does Canon have to be stingy with their lens hoods? It seems like you would need a lens hood with a WA lens more than any other and they choose not to include one.

Also, I never said price mattered but is the Canon 10-22 really $200+ better than the Tokina 12-24?

The official hood doesn't do much anyway.

>> Also, I never said price mattered but is the Canon 10-22 really $200+ better than the Tokina 12-24?

The Sigma and Tokina 12-24 lose points because they are not as wide as the Sigma 10-20 and Canon 10-22 on crop.

The Sigma and Tokina have the advtange of being in the UWA range in both crop and full frame/film. But if you want the widest, you need the 10-20 and 10-22.

The Tokina also loses point for no USM motor.

Yeah, i bought it used for 700, and sold it for 750.

And the Tokina is ahead of the Sigma 12-24 because it has better build quality is more reliable than Sigma in performance. And costs less too.

All right, well next question is, do I invest in a lens hood for the Canon 10-22. If so are there better aftermarket hoods over the stock?
>> Anonymous
>>235829

Search eBay for knockoffs. They should be identical and like $15 or something.

I order my shit from B&H so I just get the original hoods from them to avoid shipping fees on eBay, but I'm a jew like that. Yes, I know they are jews.

Oh wait, the Tokina 12-24 doesn't work 100% on fullframe/film. You can mount it but you are only safe on the long end.

It still performs better than the Sigma.

Tokina is the best performer for what I've heard. I own the Tamron 11-18 and after all, I like it. I paid it little and works decent.
