hai /p/

so... 430EX mounted on my 350D and that "high speed" flash sign appears in my viewfinder.
that allows me to take "perfect" 1/1000s photos, that's cool!

BUT, when i take the flash off the cam and use one of those ebay triggers from hong kong that allows me to use the flash wherever i want, that sign will never appear on my viewfinder again.

how am i supposed to make it happen?

High speed flash mode doesn't work with wireless triggers. It's also mostly pointless unless you're shooting in bright sunlight and need a very dark background.

without the high speed mode my 350D is only able to do 1/200s and that's not fast enough for some situations (not always related with your example)

In what situations do you require faster sync?

fast actions such as water moving

As said above, high speed sync won't work with the triggers.

Wireless triggers can pretty much fire the flash and that's it. They cannot relay any other settings.

btw, question about that. Isn't it possible to freeze motion like running water with a flash without using high speed sync. Like doing it in a dark room with a shutter of 1/200 but the flash is even faster?
>> Anonymous
You don't use fast shutters to freeze motion, you use short and bright flashes.

oh lawdy! is dat sum extrem fast shutter speed discussion?

that was proly a zero ambient light with a flash fired somewhere between the start and the end of the exposure, could also be triggered manually.

my question was not related with those ambients where we can control all the lights.

imagine a photo of some kids splashing in the water with bright sunny day

HSS isn't as useful as you'd hope. The farther away the subject and the larger the scene, the more power is needed - on top of the great reduction in power as shutter speed increases.

Just use the sun if it's a bright sunny day. Basing it on sunny 16, ISO 100 at f/16 means 1/100 shutter, you can open the the aperture to f/3.5, that's a bit more than four stops so the shutter ends up as 1/2000 already. If you want more DOF, close down the aperture to f/8 then up the ISO to 400.
