hey /p/, any tips for shooting people, cuz I have two problems: they either notice the camera and act goofy, or if they don't know me they see the camera and get out of the frame as fast as possible. And no saying "Act like I'm not here." doesn't work.

Pic sorta related., cuz that's about the best people shot I've taken.

You are being too obvious or too slow. If you get used to it, you can learn to shoot without looking through the viewfinder, though that isn't ideal.

I avoid shooting people I don't know in most cases anyway.

1. Just photograph them anyway. Practice being discreet.

2. If you know them, just keep photographing them until they get used to it. They will, and the camera will just be a natural part of hanging-out-with-[insert your name here].

Don't do this. "Isn't ideal" in a gross understatement. Unless you're a photojournalist shooting a genocide and you'd get a bullet straight down the lens, through the sensor, and into your eye if you lifted the camera to you face, don't do it. You'll get nothing but poorly composed photographs.

Depending on the type of event, you can try being very sudden about it.

Walk right by them and then suddenly turn and fire. If people are having a conversation, you'll have a moment longer to do it because they either won't notice you or won't care.

If you have something like a 200mm lens, you can just take the photos from far away.

This.

If you take enough pictures, people will eventually stop acting goofy because it will just sort of become part of the background noise of the event. Also, it gives you enough practice that you can figure out how to catch the avoid-the-camera people unawares.

Bullets come through with a lot more force than photons, so it would probably go through your cheek just below your eye rather than bouncing through the reflex system.

a question as simple as "can i photograph you?" usually works, but that's because i'm ridiculously good looking.

Works for me and I'm a troll. Just be confident and dress nice.
Protip for the basement dwellers: soap. Comes in bars, gels, liquids, flakes. Contrary to what you may think, it doesn't burnssssssss you.
Axe is not a replacement for bathing.

It works best if you're a woman

I'd say if you're well dressed and don't look ugly it also works even if you're a man. I'm just guessing but I think most peole like to be noticed whether ugly or beautiful.

Yeah, I'm hideous and it usually works for me.
