So why the fuck do you guys take pictures of shit?

Seriously, anyone can take a decent picture, none of this shit is "masterpiece" worthy and it never will be.

You spend shitloads of money on cameras to take pictures not one person cares about.

If you're gonna say OMG IT'S AN ART then fuck you, at least drawing fags don't havef to spead shitloads of money on a camera (wacom tablets, maybe)

SO WHATS UR OPINION GUYZ

Because we feel the fuck like it.

Well, you're obviously thinking of drawing as any graphite pencil, eraser, and so on. That'd be like a photographer using some point and shoot camera. It still works, but you're not going to get the detail and precision you want as your skills grow. I can't truly think of an art that has standard cheap materials used for everything that never develops into more expensive materials.

QFT.

its pretty much the same wuth every hobby.

as you progress you start wanting/needing better equip regardless of whether youre actually improving in "skill"

e.g i used to mountain bike and i was always on the prowl for better gear to use, came to photography and its the same here.

True, I just sort of made the assumption you would be improving and therefore would be more willing to spend the money in order to see progress. This is all beside the point of the OP making an extremely stupid statement though.

I take awesome photos
What are you talking about?

But seriously.. it's something I enjoy a lot. I used to draw a lot, but photography makes me feel much more satisfied and fulfilled.
I enjoy it. That's all I care about.
So I don't think it's a big deal that I spend a little bit of money on something I enjoy.
It's no different than someone buying a fancy car, a HUEG tv, monster pc, great kitchen (awesome appliances included), etc etc..
Life's all about having a good time.

Well.. In photography anyone can realise the picture they made in their head. I was never able to do that with drawing, because I suck at it. I think art is in the head, and not in the wrist. That being said, I dont consider myself or too many others on this board artists.

Also, it doesnt have to cost much if youre not a gearfreak, and who the hell cares what others think? Its cool when people like your pics, but noone takes photos just to get good critique.

It kinda sucks a bit but probably some actually do, to a point, try to get a good critique. The reason is that it might be a signal of one's improvement. Getting past that is probably a good thing.

OP here.
I respect and accept this reply.

Thank you for taking the time to respond

I can tell ya from personal experience painting costs also a shitload of money.

I do both (painting & photography) because I like it. Makes me feel good, whatever. I really don't need a reason such as "people caring about". If others like my shit, that's fine, if they don't, I'm fine.

And my well earned money is mine to spend in what I want. Some people spend it on way more stupid things.

It's people like you what cause unrest.

yeah this troll didnt even try to hide.

but i gotta say sometimes i do ask myself why i take pictures, or someone else will ask me. The only real reason i can think of is that nothing else even comes close to bringing me as much happiness on a regular basis.

Because I fail at painting.

My life is a movie and my photographs are my screenshots.

I take pictures because the kids are always moving too much for me to draw them.

But really, take music as comparison. Huge amounts of people pick up instruments and play/create music, and just about none of that music is "masterpiece worthy and will never be.

Some people also spend shitloads of money not only on instruments, but even to go as far as soundproofing a room in their house to be their studio even if they'll never make it big.

Art is art is art. Or if you have a problem with the word, then a hobby is a hobby is a hobby. Pick your poison.
