i want to buy one but the crop factor is holding me back, as it is like a 75-80mm equivalent...
does it feel comfortable, i mean framing wise ?

do you have more examples of shots taken with it?

This is another shot taken with the combination 50mm and 400. This is taken with flash. No processing except changing some values in the RAW.

I saved the flower picture in JPEG quality 10 in photoshop. So it's naturally not as sharp and detailed as the original.

Stopping down reduces the softness.

Give me an example of the bokeh. I'm still leery on getting an 1.8 over the 1.4.

2.8 and up the bokeh is fine, lower than that and it turns into a pentagon.

Using JPG compression 10 (of 12) in photoshop is not very likely to soften your pic visibly.

And you guys complaining about softness.. Since when did f13 start turning a lens into a pin-hole? DoF is related to the focusing distance, you know...

Martin please, you are continuously almost but not quite there...

It's a medium telepoto. It's a good length for the things you'd use a medium tele for: portraits and shooting performances (concerts, theatre, etc.) mostly, and also slightly abstracted shots or pulling detail out of crowds, and when you just need some reach.

A lens between 28 and 35mm is a normal lens on (most) crop sensors, just like a 50mm on film. Perfect for almost everything.

For EF mount: The f/1.8 version is good, but the f/1.4 is a downright great lens. Get it if you can afford it.

For F mount: I like the 50/1.4 better than the 50/1.8, but it's subjective, as all of these are. Go search for and lurk shots from them on Flickr and make the call yourself.

For K mount: Get the f/1.4. I don't even know if Pentax makes a 50/1.8, but pretty much every 50/1.4 Pentax has made in its history is awesome.

For funky-looking-"a"-mount: Don't know anything.

Its a shame sigma have such shit quality control with their lenses. The fact that fresh from the box a lens can be misaligned is s bit off putting.
