Hey /p/, I just got this camera (PowerShot G7) for $250, I'm pretty psyched. Heard or know anything good/bad about it?

no default RAW

and even if you hack it, files are not compatible with a lot of raw converters

yeah actually I knew that when I bought it, but I figure I can probably deal with JPGs since I don't see myself needing bleeding edge image quality, and I'm pretty handy with Photoshop anyway

Then I think you'll like the camera. Make sure you didn't buy it from a scammy online seller though.

Nah, used on eBay. Shipped today apparently. Can't wait to try it out.

Don't worry about the lack of RAW. Just go out and take pictures. I have a 5D, but a rarely shoot RAW. It's a pain in the ass.

The G7 is a very good camera. The G10 is supposedly due out in a few months though.

ISO sensitivity sucks above 200. same goes for the G9.

i've always called both of them Canon's biggest mistakes.

ISO sensitivity itself doesn't suck, but image quality does. Actually, sometimes the smearing due to NR is visible even on ISO 80 shots when viewed at 100%.

But there are no 10+ MP compacts that don't suck at ISO 200+ anyway. Fuck this megapixel race.

The highest resolution always sucks on compacts. What the 10 MP allows you to do is shoot decently at 6 MP, which you wouldn't be able to do with a 6 MP camera.

Oh, btw, before you bring up pixel density, I have a 4 MP Powershot A520 and it's max resolution is pretty terrible. I always shoot at 1600 x 1200 (aka M1).

shutter lag is horrible.
1 press the shutter
2 go for a coffee
3 take the coffee
4 then picture is taken
