hello /p/, what are some good forums or maybe online learning courses? i've been shooting "not that long" and consider myself very much an amateur. i started digital with a minolta maxxum 5d when k/m sold out and they got cheap and now i've had a canon 40d for a little while and i want to step up my photog.

Don't worry too much about forums. The best learning tool is yourself. Go out and take pictures. Look at other photographers' work. Find your style, do what you like, and train on it.

The most "learning" you can get from a book would be of the camera itself. I too use a 40D and it is my first DSLR. Being my first, I grabbed a copy of the book in the following link. It's a great resource for discovering every little feature in your gear.

Or, you know, you can download pretty much the same thing from here, for free:

OP: thanks appreciate those links and advice.

When I bought my first dSLR, I tried to fill up a 2gb card in a day in all kinds of settings, then studied them all.

photosig.com is a pretty okay site.
You can upload some photos and other photographers will critique them and shit and give you some pointers. only downside is with a basic account you can only upload so much in a 72 hour period. still gotta learn some of the technical stuff yourself though. even in a photography class, i was mostly on my own with getting that stuff down. Just go out and shoot with different settings and see what happens
