Nikon COOLPIX P6000 Anonymous
Is this any good for close-ups of small things like watch gears?
>> Anonymous
ALL P&S cameras are good for macro.

Go and learn the definition of macro.

OP: It's probably decent for close-up shooting, but it wouldnt be real macro until the field of view is equal or smaller than the sensor size.

not OP and not 813, but i think the small ass sensor and absurdly close focus distances (0 to 1 cm) may yield 1:1 on some point-and-shoots

actually smaller sensors simply make things look more magnified, 1:1 on a P&S probably doesn't exist

i'll be honest, i don't know if i am reading 1:1 macro right but

if it's 2 cm in real life, it's also 2 cm on the sensor, right? i think if you focus at 0-1 cm on a 2 cm object, it will cover the whole frame of the small point-and-shoots sensors

Achieving 1:1 on a P&S means that you can fill the entire frame with an object only a few millimeters in size, which is near microscope territory. But getting an equivalent of "film" 1:1 (and even 2:1) is quite easy.
