Hay thar /p/.
I'm utterly perplexed by cameras in a technical sense, although I'm 'enthusiastic' when it comes to taking a shot. So, I thought "OHWELL let’s get a DLSR!" What would you suggest for a low end of the range newbie friendly DSLR that is SD card compatible? I was thinking the Samsung GX1L for the simple reason I have their A50 point and shoot and it's a handy little beggar. [ Oh and it's reasonably cheap with a lense kit ]
Please’s and thank you’s in advance.

Didn't know they had a DSLR, what lens mount is it?

Short answer, No get Canon or Nikon, it will save you a hell of a lot of trouble (And probably money) when looking for lenses. (And you will actually be able to upgrade)

Pentax KAF2, KAF, KA mount lenses. Although they say use the more expensive Schneider D-XENON lenses for it. If that helps.
Basically, as I've read, it's a Pentax DS2 re-badged or something.

Heh. Company selling lenses recommends the more expensive lenses. Oh, the shock.

Is the GX1L cheaper than the Pentax it's rebadged from? If so, go for it. If not, get the Pentax.

Ha, yeah, true, when was there ever value for money on anything.
I can only find one refurbished PENTAX *istDL2 for pretty much the same price as the GX1L if it didn't have the twin lense kit. Did PENTAX detonate all of them to make everyone buy the shiny new Samsung-y version?

What's the gimmick, did samsung add or change anything to the camera outside of s/Pentax/Samsung/ ?

There are some slight changes to the menus, and that's all.

The *istDL/DS are long out of production, Pentax upgraded them to K100/K110.
