Car finally came back from the shop so I hit up the new butterfly exhibit at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. The exhibit is amazing. 40 or so foot room filled with over 100 types of butterflies and piles of awesome flowers. Going to go back and hit it up with my macro stuff tomorrow at opening, should be mostly empty but the world series is going on across the street.

What lens did you use for this? I got some shots like this up in Seattle using a 24-70mm, but that was mostly because were were allowed to get close, so I just got as close as I could while still being able to focus.

100-300 but it's an open room with them flying free. You can hold out your hand and watch them land on it.

One of my favorite of the blue monkeys lost an arm since I was last there.

like your shots, as always, but they seem to be a little dark (except for the first one), and I have a really bright monitor.. maybe bump up exposure by 1/3 - 2/3

here

just looked at the histograms of the monkey shots in PS.. do you use your histogram function on your camera after you take your shots?

if so, youre pulling em back too much in PS. If not, you should try it out and expose to get a good range on the histogram w/o blowing them out, then pull back to whatever level you want in PS

played with the curves a bit.. im sure you shoot in raw, so you can fix this better than I did.

for me to bother writing down the names? they shouldn't be hard to ID look for wing spans of 5"+

oh man, nice photos, a shame the eyes of the butterfly aren't in focus though.

Great shots, good composition, but the monkeys are quite underexposed. Other than that, good as always. You're among the best on this board for sure.

Anyway, enough ass licking:

>>210966
Could have used another angle, lower and more close. I don't know what you're aiming for though, this is really good if showing the wings is really important to you.

>>211285
A bit dark, quite boring lightning, I don't really like the shadows being that harsh.

>>211326is much better than>>210976, but I think>>211322is the best. The contrast between the blueish skin and the red fur is neat, the eyes stand out more and the highlights in the fur looks good.
Did you use flash btw?
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
>>210966
I have a closer version of this, but it wasn't strong because the negative space didn't interact with the subject at all.

>>211592
no, which is limiting but I just can't bring myself to strobe animals, especially in a zoo setting in which they're are getting nothing but strobed all the time.

>>211285
too dark really? I've gone back and given true and more upper tones to the other ones, just didn't post them, but I didn't think that one was too dark. Is just too dark in general or too dark in composition?
