Portraits are one of the few areas where a hell of a lot of centering works. Head+shoulders particularly.

And yeah, I'd say it works in this instance.

Well, try to remember not to 'cut' at the joints, e.g. elbows, wrists, knees etc. That way you won't make em look handicapped or some shit.
