Sup /p/
For school next year I need a new camera and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I'm looking for a DSLR camera, and I have a little over 500 dollars saved up for one. Does anyone have any suggestions on a camera I could get? I also would like a warranty, so keep that in consideration.

Also, I was looking at the Canon Digital Rebel XT as a possible option, is this camera any good, or does anyone have any feedback on it?

hey look, my troll is back <3
unfortunately he still hasn't gotten down the humor thing yet, but oh well. he does try so very hard.

for $500, I would recommend a 400d/XTi or if you are willing to wait a little bit the 1000d/XS

Is that $500 for just the body?
lenses are expensive!!

last time i checked, a good xti kit still runs around $900-$1000 new.

I use the rebel xt... You can find this body used, for very reasonable prices! it doesn't have some of the fancy things like the "dust vibrator," but nonetheless is a VERY easy to use, light, fast, and a durable camera.

Be prepared to shell out some cash for a good set of lenses.. you will outlive that camera body. so, it's good to invest in lenses that will always be part of your camera bag.

I am happy with my Xti, although it did cost around 650 around xmas and i am using a 1000$ lens on it.

you could probably pick up a Xti on ebay with the kit 17-55mm lens on it for around 500$.

I wouldn't worry about getting a flash wight away. learn the use of the camera with available light, and if needed in a pinch the camera does have a pop up flash.

I bought the 580 EX-II flash and I use is maybe 5% of the time. I'm still learning also.

I just, 5 seconds ago, bought a D40 Nikon for $512 with 2gb SD card....I'm pretty sure I'll be pleased with that. It has a kit lens and everything.
>> Anonymous
Go with a d40. No matter what all the fags here say its a well built camera capable of taking great pictures. Its also within your price range with a lens.
>> Anonymous
I've read tons of reviews in the past few days about the D40 kit so I just got one off newegg today. You should google some reviews on the D40 because it has a lens and everything you need for right at $500.

everything you need...except quality and a motor!

I've heard this before and it's a generalization but I feel it's pretty true; Nikon is still palmfacing for helping Canon start because Canon is over 9000 times better.

direct quotes from you
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>217301
Repeating irrelevant quotes out of context and sequence is not direct quoting. Nor are the quoted statements as hypocritical as you seem to think they are.

The latter two quotes have no relation to being able to take criticism. The second quote was me saying I wasn't happy with my processing, and the third quote was me saying that I thought the raw picture itself had potential, I was just doin it rong.

So just try a little harder, okay? New material even, toned-down Dave Hill look is out, criticize me for getting "ripped off" on my Bessa or something.

What's so bad about manually focusing with the d40?
>> Anonymous
>>217438

- The viewfinder's tiny
- Youll never get it right
- Most people really cant be bothered to focus manually, even if you might like it, refer to the first two points.
>> Anonymous
>>217442
You forgot the biggest point; it's a D40
>> Anonymous
>>217449
You forgot it's like $200 cheaper than anything else - it's entry level and a bargain.
>> Anonymous
>>217442- Youll never get it right

i'll put on a sigma 10-20 at 10mm and f/5.6

focus at 1m and have everything in focus

i win
>> Anonymous
>>217453

lol, let's save $200 now and lose all that profit when the time comes to buy a small prime lens

GREAT SUCCESS

and XTs can be had for $500, D40s aren't $300 last time i checked lol
