Hey /p/

I was looking to get a Canon EOS 400D (digital rebel xti) to get me into the world of DSLR's. I've been using a film SLR for the better part of a year and truly getting a feel for photography at it's most primative (ive been shooting and developing my own photos through my school's darkroom and learning what i can between work and classes).

I've been looking through different DSLR's and have tried them out at Best Buy and anywhere else I could find cameras. I like the EOS 400D, but i need to know how is it's compatibility with different lenses and zooms whatnot? Is there a wide enough variety that I could find a matching lens for a particular style I wanted? I would like to eventually experiment with different things and not get shafted with a body that does me no good.

If I'm better off getting something else, let me know, I'm open to suggestions and whatnot.

Also, let it be known I'm not completely ditching the film slr. I love that each frame on the negative can mean something because you put so much time into it and now you have something tangible and physical as a reward in your hands. Although they may not all be perfect shots, you definitely feel close to your photos afterwards. That's just my take.

Thanks in advance /p/, I love lurking in awe. Definitely have some amazing people on here.

Attached is pic I took with old point and shoot. RIP Nikon Coolpix.

Also, I apologize in advance for the ridiculous filesize and dimensions of that pic. I didn't realize I attached the original. =X My bad.

Yeah, the 400d is a wonderful body. However, i would suggest looking into picking up a second hand 30d. It's got a much more rugged quality body, you'll feel huge difference if you hold one in your hands. Overall it has alot more operational efficency.

The biggest difference is the pentaprism viewfinder vs the mirror one on the xti. Much larger and brighter.

The Canon 400D will use any Canon EOS (EF mount) compatible lens. Canon introduced the EOS system back in the late eighties, so you can imagine there are more than a few compatible lenses around now.

You'll also get a bunch of options from third party makers such as Sigma, Tokina and Tamron.

The 400D is very good for the money and is compatible with any lenses you could use on the pro digital bodies or EOS film bodies.
