Heh. This is like Bob Barr claiming he's the presidential candidate from one of the three main US political parties.

Nikons (or tough cameras generally) driving nails is not a /p/ meme. It's an old grizzled dog photographer meme Heavyweather picked up on and got mocked for when he mentioned it here.

Older and now abandoned is the grizzled photojournalist's complaint that you can knock someone unconscious with a Speed Graphic but a Nikon F will just piss them off. This one has an attributable source, but I can't remember who it was.

I know that, but it's still fun.

Frankly, you can trust Nikon gear. The same goes for high end Canon gear. It's reliable. It's sturdy. It will take the abuse that goes with professional rigors. You can pick up a Nikon every day, and use it, just like you use a tool. Hell, you can drive nails with old Nikons. That's the quality we're talking about here.

we should all grow grizzled beards and come up with our own grouchy things to compare cameras to, year two thousand style.

True story: Leica reps used to go around to photo stores and stage this little demonstration: they'd be showing off some camera, take the lens off it, suddenly throw it across the room, pick up the lens, put it back on, and keep shooting.

they'll also stand on the camera and dare you to do zee same vith your fancy slr.

You don't seem to understand here though. They're not the same class of camera. A viper, and a Porsche Turbo may both be super cars but one is 90,000 and one is 200,000. It's not the same thing. Of course it out preforms it, if you're buying them in kit packages, theres an 1,000 price difference.

And really kiddies, this "it has 900345342 auto focus points" is embarrassing to read. Are you serious? I've never, ever needed more than 3. I'm going to get "well you don't do this, or that, and that needs it man." Please.

A lot of the way Nikon handles things, weather you want to admit it or not, is a trick. Sure, tell me I don't know. Thats really not about to change years of experience. I like to buy cameras that capture an image, and thats it. The Body, and interfaces are thing of nightmares. Nikon consistently, out of all manufacturers, finishes dead last in usability of interface.

You know, I had a laugh recently when I was listening to some Nikon shooters discussing their beefs with the system. One of which was that they always felt that Nikon cameras were designed by "engineers" rather than photographers/artists like other cameras (Canon, for instance). Odd overlap of /p/ and elsewhere there.

The "drives nails into the wall" stuff is kind of funny, but dishonest. You might be able to mash the camera off of rocks and walls with only a few scrapes, dents or cracks on the outside, but the internals are still delicate on even those old all mechanical cameras and can get fucked by this. It's happened plenty times before. Even Leica cameras go defective and get serviced.

D40, camera of the future! only 3 AF points for the pickiest photographers, and useability of its interface is so simple!

I'd rather have something that was designed by engineers than by artist. Would a sculptor prefer a chisel and hammer made by a blacksmith or another sculptor?

Good example of a shitty product made by artists rather than engineers? The Optimus Keyboard.

Truth. Basically, anything with moving parts = should not be banged around

Yeah, but the joke was there that the old copypasta posted previously is that Canon is made by engineers and Nikon by photographers, but there was Nikon shooters that had never seen that copypasta complaining about the opposite. Just a comment about the copypasta for the lulz, rather than anything serious.
