Borders? okto !.ZlrOYZhsk
What is with /p/'s hatred of borders? It's a widely accepted practice in traditional-process fine art photography, why is it so reviled here?

Picture highly related.

cos 4chan is not fine art.

Borders is da faggotry

Because they're not borders and that's not fine art. They're unnecessary lines of pixels.

They're not borders...

We are talking about borders, yes? So you're saying borders aren't borders?

For the same reasons you've just now stated. Because it is a widely accepted process in fine art photography, oftentimes shitty photographers apply them to their shitty photos, demonstrating that they hold themselves in high esteem already when in effect they are only at a stage where they should focus on studying proper shot composition and accepting criticism. There's little that is as worthy a cause for revilement as an idiot who believes himself to be an artist. Pic unrelated, I just like it.

No, but I really wanted to know. I don't understand it.

>They're unnecessary lines of pixels.
So you hate them because they're digitally added? Do you hate traditionally-printed full-frame borders too? I'm still not 100% on this.

Thank you Anon. Agreed on all points.

Yes. Digital = ease. Ease is the antithesis of thought and effort.
>Do you hate traditionally-printed full-frame borders too?
Not usually, because of the lack of the points outlined above.

Hey guys, conflicting opinions always mean trolling right? "If they don't agree with me, they MUST be wrong! I am the pinnacle of open-mindedness!!!!"

it depends if they conflicting or just fucking retarded, ill informed, shit.

In my opinion, a border is just the digital equiv to a Frame on a canvas.
If you bought a set of prints from a photographer you'd expect some sort of border.

Differentfag.

I think what the other poster meant was an actual physical border for your print takes a bit of time and effort, which means you need to think about whether a border is really going to add to your photo, what sort of frame to use etc. before you add it.

With digital you just click and its there, which means for some people they don't have any artistic reasons for adding it, they just do it because they can.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>209295
That's the same reason that people shooting film tend to have a better ratio of good pictures to bad ones, because they think about what they're shooting more.

Physical frames aren't better, people just overused digital ones. When you dismiss all frames because of that then you're acting just like they are.

Exactly, thank you, someone gets it and listens instead of just RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE.

not really, you're still just as bad for automatically dismissing digital borders.
>> Anonymous
>>209308
But you see the reason why, so what's your point?
>> Anonymous
>>209309

sage's only "point" is the 10" black dildo she keeps in a shoe box under her bed since no man will ever love her
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>209309
My point is that the fact that it's a digital border has nothing to do with it being good or not. A bad picture looks bad with a border, digital or not. You say people use them basically as insta-art on digital, but you're okay with it being used as insta-art on film because it's MORE REAL.

>>209312
There's a dildo in that box?!
>> Anonymous
>>209287
it is not a digital equivalent..

prints are for usage, such as putting up somewhere in your home, hence why you'd need frames
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>209322
Frames serve mostly aesthetic purposes, you don't need a frame to hang a painting or a photograph, they're supposed to accent it.
>> Anonymous
>>209316
Agreed.
If the picture sucks, it sucks. For yourself, add a border if it makes the picture look better.

When looking at other peoples photographs ? Hate it or love it. You lose nothing to their failiure.
