no, I wouldn't.

The 80-200 2.8 pictured is an old model. You can buy the new af-d for $700ish ebay or $900 new.

That leaves you with about $1k for a cam and wide, in which id get a used d80 (should be a lot of em considering the new d90) and something like an 18-70.

it's a good package for not for 2000 bucks... maybe 1800?

It's not too bad honestly for what you're getting.

In Canada
D70s = 325
Sb600 = 150
35-70 = 350
80-200 = 400
f90x and wireless remote maybe 100

So I would say overpriced.

I'd love to see where you can get those 2 f/2.8 lenses for anything less than $600.

Nikoncafe.com
That 80-200 is incredibly common, Newest AF-D sells for 600 max, 80-200 af-s 850-950
older versions go for 400ish and LESS for the one ring

35-70 was dirt cheap before the D3 and D700 were announced, only now is it back up above the 350 mark

If you happen to know an actual source for recent model AF-D 80-200s for less than $600, I'd love to know.

Ok, I checked out Nikoncafe and determined it to be a sack of bullshit. First I couldn't use my hotmail address because it's "banned by the administrator." Then I have to make 25 "substantive " posts and be a member for 30 days before I'm even allowed to see the for sale board. I have no intention of joining and participating in a forum full of a bunch of bureaucratic neckbeards who sit around touching each other's penises over how awesome their cameras are while writing new rules for their forum just so that I might have the opportunity at some point in the future to view a page that may or may not contain a lens at a good price from a seller that may or may not be legitimate.

How about a store, auction site, or other e-commerce site whereupon I can actually see a price without any participation requirements or waiting periods?

You pulled those numbers out of your ass and now for some inconceivable reason are trying to defend it.

Lol, the site has good camaraderie. Sorry you are too impatient to check out its for sale section. I buy most of my stuff from there, because the people on there are anal camera nerds, who take great care of their shit. And always dump their old stuff when new versions come out. (And the prices are good too)
the 70-200 VR did wonders for my lens collection, because of the fire sales for all the 80-200 af-s lenses. (And 180mm f2.8's and 70-180 micro's).

I even checked BH and Adorama for you but they have non in stock. Sorry my help for you ends here.

should i buy yes/no?

not quite.

The "new" af-d goes for 700-800 used mint, $900-1k actually new.

The AF-S is RARE AS FUCK and goes for anywhere up to 1200.
