Yeah the m8 is actually a piece of garbage.

How many of us are going to go to Iraq or take on a similar kind of photojournalism job? (well, how many of us are going to afford M8s is a better question)

The M8 is excellent for its intended purpose, which is giving rich people a digital way of using their M lenses for what they always used them for, taking "street" photography and pretending their pictures of peoples backs are artistic. Not exactly a professional camera, but then most people don't use their DSLRs very differently.

EOS 450D!

Or wait for the 500D or 470D if Canon rotate their swap over period to 12 months.

No we don't all need to worry about desert conditions, but I thought his points about constantly hitting buttons, annoying CF door and awful high ISO noise are valid points for anybody even considering this camera.

Kamber's entitled to his opinion, but other people (including people shooting in Iraq) have brought back positive reviews of the M8; to me, it seemed his review consisted mostly of bitching that it didn't work like his 1Ds Mk. III. The noise thing was ridiculous- compare it to the 135 film he happily shot for years- as was just outright bitching that an f/2.8 lens on a smaller sensor has more depth of field than an f/1.4 lens on a larger one.

And, of course, the problems couldn't have been too bad: he kept shooting with it for months, didn't he?

There's no better proof of one's skill at photography than taking a good picture of people's backs on the street. It's crazy hard but I don't think it's impossible...
