40d 17-85mm VS. d90 18-200mm Anonymous
/p/, i need your halp.

nikon d90 with 18-200mm or canon 40d with 17-85mm?

i'm leaning towards the 40d because i'm familiar with canon and the price is within my current budget. i also don't want to spend too much on a dSLR because i'm a film fanatic and i would much rather save up for a hasselblad or a mamiya.

but the d90 with the 18-200mm is a bit tempting..

what do you think?

40D. You're familiar with it, which is the only reason to go for one over the other.

But why the ridiculously huge standard zooms?

because it's my first time getting a digital slr and since i'm just starting out, i want a good walk around lens first.

D90 with an 18-200 = good camera with a shit lens
40D with the 17-85 = good camera with a good lens

I haven't fooled around with the D90, but I played with a 40D yesterday. Feels good man.

More like "good camera with mediocre lens worse than the 18-55IS"

What do you shoot on film?

d90 with 18-105 vr

not that much different from the 18-200 and you get HD video with the d90.

cheaper than 40d too, you get the best combo
