Just got back from a rather unproductive run up to Rocky Mountain National Park, nothing too interesting from this trip, mostly more of the same but not as good.

In other news, my 30D now no longer works leaving me with that MF mamiya and an Elan.

what happened to the 30D?

did it suicide from depression as a result of your 10-22 dying?

When I put my flash on this morning so I could use it for a fill light, I heard crack. I assumed it was the epoxy cracking, but when I turned my camera on side, I watched my flash fall off the top of my camera, taking more than 1 cord with it.

>a rather unproductive

Yup. It looks like Ansel Adams had Robert Frank's Leica and film subbed in for his 8x10, film, and meter unawares.

In other words, the tones look dark and murky, and not in a beautiful Robert Frank way. Now, I'm on an uncalibrated monitor ATM, but if anything this monitor is overly bright.

They composition sucks on all of them except>>285976, which has potential and the tones in the sky are fine and dramatic and all, but the ground is too dark.

The other two do nothing for me emotionally, etc., though like I said that one has potential.

I'm looking at getting a job again so I can purchase a 40D or 50D (depends on if that dpreview review was really then just being jerks, plus the 40D is so much cheaper). Until then it's film time.

I also want to find out if it's possible to get the 30D repaired for under 300$ If so, I'll get it fixed and start buying some of my FF dream lenses to eventually be paired with a 5D. If anyone knows of a place to purchase individual camera parts, let me know. I think I mihgt just be able to repair it myself if it's just a cracked body piece and few torn cords.

A friend has a Large Format film camera he's going to lend me to pair with the mamiya and elan. The lens on the mamiya is really rather wide while the LF isn't apparently, I haven't gotten to see the thing yet so who knows.

most potential, need more contrast though, especially in the darker portion of the rocks.
That would take a lot of masking to get it right though lol.
>> Anonymous
why dont you just use the MF? someone should start selling film MFs again, they'd make a fortune.
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
>>286137
I hate working with it?

It has a 28mm lens on it (which is really rather wide on a MF) and only shoots square. It's too restrictive for me to be happy with.

It's a fricken brick and it is a must to lug around my heavy tripod, which shortens the distances I can hike.

Film costs money, space on a memory card doesn't? Every 2 rolls (I do two canisters at time) of MF is around half an of work ,+2 more or so hours to dry, +10-15 minutes to scan each image. Heaven forbid if I'm in mood to do traditional prints.

If I screw up anywhere along the way like setting my light meter incorrectly, not load it properly, my film gets wet, I use the wrong chemical times, or that other guy hasn't put the right chemicals in the labeled jugs, etc. There's a weekend down the drain and an F for that assignment.

>>286135
Are the trees coming out kinda of gray on your screen? My laptop grays out those tones compared to the computer I'm processing on atm, which is calibrated for printing.

Gray as opposed to what? black?

Some of them are really dark, but not black, and a few trees in the lit areas are about a 70% white.

My monitor is as calibrated as it can be, (but its a 2 year old LCD) but IE uses sRGB, and I calibrate mine to adobe RGB. So who knows lol, could be 4chan, could be your comp. could be the printer proofs aren't perfect.. (I assume they used proofs and not printer profiles)

sounds like we're different, but who knows how to fix it. I will play with the mid-tone contrast on the lower portion of the rocks as you suggested when times to print this for class.

It'll still bite your kneecaps off

but seriously no, if it's under 300$ to get repaired I'm going to get it done. It has been my intention for quite some time now, that when this becomes my secondary camera, to convert it to HDR only. Right now I'm waiting for the place I bought it from to send up the receipts from buying it, then it's off to Canon to find out the cost of repair, along with my 10-22.

Meh. Dark in such a way that it just looks like you screwed up the exposure. Subject and composition not particularly interesting.

>>286017
Sort of like this one. The sweeping expanse of mountain in the lower background is nice. On a technical note, though, the ground all looks like it's ISO128000. I'm guessing that it was far lower in the histogram and you pulled it up? If you want to shoot directly into the sun and keep your foreground, I'd recommend investing in a graduated ND. You know, after you have an actual camera again...

>>286024

I really like this one, although (or possibly because) it is confounding my brain by not revealing its scale. It looks like a macro, but the waterfall makes it seem not-macro. This may just be because I live near Niagara Falls.
