2 of these would be better. The lighting is good where it is. Unfortunately there is not enough of it.

oh gawd your ugly
>> Kilz2latex !!3htj9hFDMA4
should use 2 flashes if you have them
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m
>>265075
saw this coming and used sheet of paper for a little fill light.
Normally I play with all of this stuff in the dining room with a dozen sheets of black and white foamboard to get what I want.

If I had money for 2 flashes I wouldn't be making softboxes out of paint trays.

I've had luck using a white film canister on the pop-up flash and an off-cam flash diffused with something (like you have).

Typically I'd set the pop-up flash to a much lower power to be used just as fill and to trigger the off-cam flash.

doesnt have to be 2 expensive flashes

uh, when your built-in flash is set as wireless master, it has NO effect whatsoever on your shot

cover up your slave in cardboard, in a dark room, fire off your camera and your shot will still be black. the built-in flash fires a few ms before the actual exposure

Not the way I did it.

I should have been more clear. The off camera flash is triggered simply by sensing the on-cam flash itself with an optical sensor. It's a cheap POS flash. The camera has no idea there is an off-cam flash present.

that's what you get for using cheap optical slaves

...wat?

That's how I wanted it. It yields pretty decent results.
>> Anonymous
i am making fun of you for using cheap, ghetto, optical slaves instead of a proper system

Shitsux.

No-one cares about your DIY softbox if your pictures are shit. OTOH, if you posted some great shots on here people would ASK you what lighting you'd used. See how that works? There's nothing of value in this thread whatsoever.

I made a one-second softbox from a piece of cardboard with a white coating used for "stabilizing" chocolate bars, opened the chocolate, ate it, took the cardboard, stuck it on the flash and let the flash reflect from it, perfectly soft lighting.

this was done with a single light, no softbox

you should consider lighting yourself (if that's you) from above, since it hides the double chin.
