If you just ignore the tiny sensor, terrible high ISO performance, slow speed, lack of a glass TTL viewfinder, lower resolution, lower image quality, inability to switch lenses, difficulty of manual focusing, and lack of easily-accessible manual controls, a point and shoot is pretty much the same as a dSLR. It's all just different features.
(Pro tip: The features between different cameras can be significant, especially between digitals)
