>>273435
well I'm looking for a prime but I think 50mm would be too close a focal range, sigma has a pretty nice 28mm

You have no idea how wrong you are. That is because you are stupid.

you don't have to worry about the quality of these kinds of lenses. they're all basically optically perfect.

Sigma 30mm f1.4

better
>> Anonymous
>>273711
Depends.

The 35 is (assuming it's pretty close to 35, and not, say, a 33 or a 37) a longish fifty. The Sigma is at the long end of the wide normal range.

The Sigma, like lots of f/1.4 lenses, is huge. The more modest f/2 Nikkor would be more usable.

The Nikkor probably has better build quality and a better focus ring; it certainly does have a better DoF scale than the Sigma. Does the Sigma even have one?

I do like the results from the Sigma and don't know much about the Nikkor's look, but owing to all that unless I actually outright disliked it I'd probably take the Nikkor and just push a stop when I needed to.

Worst review ever of a lens you've evidently never held or used.

It's not huge, this is a fast 30, not a 200/2. It's built very well, and feels a bit better than the Nikon 35, the focus ring is nice and is full-time manual focus.

You make Ken Rockwell look intelligent.
>> Anonymous
>>273963
>full-time manual focus

what so no AF on the D80?
>> Anonymous
>>273964

Full-time manual focus means to engage manual focus all you have to do is grab the focus ring and turn it. A shutter half-press re-engages AF. With an AF-D lens like 35/2, to use manual focus you have to turn the body switch to MF, and then back to AF to re-engage AF.

why can't they make a 35mm f/1.8? f/2 is too close to some f/2.8 zooms in terms of speed and bokeh and it costs $300, wtfs

i don't mind paying more for a f/1.8, like $500 same price as those f/2.8 zooms, because then there'd be some good value to it, much faster and more background blur
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>273964

IT'll auto focus on the D80, all AF-D lenses will

8/10. I doubt you'd notice if they just slapped 1.8 on the 2.0 lens and didn't tell you.
