Beginner Buying a camera Anonymous
I'm a camera noob interested in photography. I have a good eye, but little experience with decent cameras. I'm interested in digital SLR's, but not confined to digital alone. I'm a fast learner when it comes to technology.

So, what does 4chan recommend (nothing uberly expensive) ?

4chan recommends reading some fucking reviews instead of posting the 5th 'lol wut camera should I buyed' thread in two days.

The rules of the board are pretty clear. You're only supposed to post photos you've taken, and you're supposed to provide information behind the photo.

Two, /p does have a serious problem with people posting the same idiotic question: "Help /p, I'm a beginner, I want a camera, what should I get." They're either trolls or lazy idiots who can't be bothered to do research on their own.

The purpose of /p isn't to give purchasing advice. There's photo.net, a basketful of "review" sites (like dpreview, dcresource etc.), etc for that.

As I have posted about fifty times:

/p/ is assuming I haven't researched my cameras.

Entirely not true.

I've been looking at cameras and reading specs for weeks - I just wanted the opinion of people who have possibly purchased a digital SLR in the past. That's something you can't learn by comparing specs.

k?

/p/ is right to assume you haven't done any research if you haven't mentioned any models you were interested in and throwing out a very general question like that.

Though it's generally looked down upon to ask purchasing questions, I think that some people here will still answer your questions if you pose something very specific.

yeah i think that's also the main problem, general threads like 'what dSLR do i buy' get really tiring because they are repeated almost on an hourly basis.

If however, the question is more specific like model against model or add lens and specific types of photography then it becomes actually interesting to read and may help everyone just to read the thread and build up a little knowledge.

The OP in this thread is an example on what not to do.

wow, i just counted 8 similar threads to this one in the 10 pages of /p/

do some people need to be spoon feed on what to buy? Cant anyone have an opinion for themselves and do their on research, maybe a good day at the local camera stores playing with the models and an hour or so on a well respected website like dpreview.

/p/ is getting too many 'i'm too n00b to actually look for myself, what can 4chan give me' style threads.

sorry for been so blunt, but it has to stop somewhere i think.
