Worst lighting ever in this gym, overhead bulbs were something like 60hz incandescent things, every picture I would have the light coming from a different direction. For the sparring when I could use the flash I had the SB-800 firing continuously (woo for 5th battery).
Held up pretty good, ISO 400-640, FP sync 1/400 ish, at F2.2 mostly

Pic related to show the worst of the lighting.

...did they have their guard low most of the time? Cause that always bothers me.
>> Anonymous
They are all doing it wrong.
The reason the first one got punched in the face like that is because his guard is to low, lowering your arms at anytime is the biggest mistake a fighter can do, his stance is horrible as well as the other and can be easily taken out with the slightest tap to the front leg.
In the second picture the woman on the floor is facing the completely incorrect way, her body should be facing opposite of the boy who took her down, this is a sure way of getting knocked down along side, pinned, and brutally raped.
I'm not even going to mention the flaws in the other pictures.

Haha no, but when their guard was up I didn't get the best pictures.

itt internet martial arts experts.

also, inb4 jkd, kung fu, karate, judo, mma.

also also, itt cool photos.

Nice photos, good capture. It annoys me when people critique still photos of sparring/fighting etc. and go on and on about form and posture and stance as if they were grandmasters when most of them (no offense) only know about martial arts through kung fu movies of ridiculous OTT anime.
If you practise martial arts and you've been in fights, you'll know it isn't an issue of the right 'stance', it's a very fluid thing to need to adapt to a very intense and violent situation. Fights are always so quick, you have no time to think or consider what to do, everything's over even before you're aware. 1st dan (black belt) in karate here by the way.

I've seen a lot of karate and tkd sparring matches that have a tendency to keep the guard low, so I thought I'd ask. Hard to tell for sure from a single frame. Criticising stance at the point that someone is getting hit and knocked over is asinine.

Thats a Man baby!

Ya I agree these stills are even misleading in that later on the guy on red was cleaning house.
Older guy is 3rd Dan (Blackbelt, Chito-ryu Katate), younger guy is 1st Dan. (Match ended 8 to 5 for the younger dude)

Supposed to be full contact body, and light contact to the face, but obviously they didn't take that too literally!

>>147448
Agreed.
>> Anonymous
tldr, but im guessing that whoever lost did so because you kept on setting a fucking flash off in their FACE.

youd get a Tatsumaki Senpuukyaku for that shit around these parts!

who keeps their hands up during olympic sparring? I don't. You shouldn't need to guard if you're fast enough to pata chagi

I actually asked the guys sparring afterwards, they don't even notice that i'm firing the flash.

Also ISO 400+, F2.2 means the flash isn't even working hard. I could do 8 shot bursts and the flash would have enough time to recycle. (5fps on the D200)
