it was suggested to take that lens, i was told the other lenses are mostly to zoom in more ;)

any lenses that are suggested to take pics of models maybe?
like i said, i don't know much about it all yet, but i'm learning ;)

shit sucks

shots are blurry and focusing on the wrong things.
composition is awful
photos seem random, no thought at all

boring, bland, boring, bland, boring and bland

shit
sucks

(i almost backspaced all that because it seems a bit mean, and as you say you are 'learning'. but this was my initial reaction)

here's the nicer, more diplomatic me.
before you hit the shutter button, try to frame and compose your shots with more thought.
also make sure your shutter speed is correct as the first 2 shots should've been on at least 1/30 .. or faster.
also, don't waste your time using people as subjects as you're still warming up (unless they really don't mind)

that's it for now

I suggest the "Model taking lens 5000 ED DX" series... Honestly, there is no right or wrong lens if the environment permits.

50mm f/1.8 is a nice and cheap lens. Also, as far as I know, short tele lenses are good for portraits and such.
Personally I think you should invest in a 50mm f/1.8 because it's really cheap and sharp, especially when you lower the aperture to something like f/2.8. The focal length might be a bit unconvenient at times, but a part from that, it's awesome for its price.

I don't know much about lenses so I guess you'd better listen to the more experienced here on /p/, though.

That's pretty much the exact advice that the more experienced here on /p/ always give.

Cheap, fast primes are very high quality. Don't let the price fool you, you will always get much more quality out of a 50mm prime than any consumer-level zoom.

Carl Zeiss has just or is coming out with a lens for the F and K mounts that is designed pretty much as a portrait lens for crop-sensor cameras: 58/1.4, which is 87mm at the conversion. 50,000 yen, dollar price not announced yet. According to a currency converter thing on the Internet I pulled up, that's $435.77. Not extremely cheap, but it'll probably be a good deal overall.

compress your stupid, poorly composed images.

also, waste of a d80
>> Anonymous
You need to work on your focusing/DoF.

Other people here are way out of line with their comments.

over 600 pictures on the camera and you still havent learned to focus?

holy fuck OP got raped

Oh hi. You must be new here.

How the fuck it can be hard to get focus with D80???

With auto everything you get better results (100% crop included) than that...

Use teh AF light if it's too dark.

>>89115
Looks like OP was trying to be a cool kid using manual focus.

Protip: auto focus is there for a reason.
>> Anonymous
>>89116

Manual focusing is horrible with D80. The picture is rarely in focus, altough it looks like it's in focus in viewfinder.

Also viewfinder doesn't show full DOF, so it's even harder if you want to use big apertures like f1.4

That means I need to rely on the focus indicator light if I want my manually focused pictures to be in focus. So I might as well use auto focus... and that's what I've done so far ;)
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
why do (all) DSLRs have shit focusing, I WANT MY SPLIT PRISIM AS STANDARD!
>> Anonymous
>>89119

Because nearly every photo taken with a DSLR is shot with AF on?
>> Macheath !8b4g0BkNZg

Exif says he did use autofocus...

>>89121
Doesn't the 18-70 allow for manual override?
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>89120
Yeah but i work in conditions where the AF shits bricks a lot and a decent MF screen would be so usefull. Not so much a problem now i have an external flash with red-preflash instead of just pre-flashing.
>> Sicko !L3HRY/miC.
>>89119

This. Is it just more expensive to produce so they stopped doing it, or was there an outcry of people saying it got in the way?
>> Anonymous
>>89141
Some people don't like it because it's can make composition difficult. I would welcome it personally or at least easily interchangeable screens (looks like the 40D does that though).
