How are these (for a newbie photographer) Anonymous
I'm pretty new to the whole game. These were only a few months after learning how to work an older film camera properly (no automatic focus, etc), develop, and print.

Pictures of a friend of mine.

Looks like scans, I believe OP mentioned that he was going at it olde school

I like except for one thing: the starbucks cup in the first one ruins the old sense the pictures give. Kind of anachronistic, especially with the late '60s early 70s feel of the second one.

OP: what film are you using and what are you developing it in? What ISO are you shooting it at and how long are you developing it?

Bear with me. Learning the ins and outs of processing film well is a bitch.

These aren't bad at all, especially if you're just beginning.

This is funny to me because I remember when Starbucks and film were both the shit in the '90s. The shot you refer to feels *really* mid-90s to me. I guess it's just a matter of perspective.

This is OP.

First off, thanks for all the kind comments, guys. =)

Secondly, the Starbucks cup was not my idea. In fact, I basically told my friend to show up however he would normally come to work. The Coffee is part of who he is (just like the cigarette, the posture, etc), so I left it in.

Yes, these were scanned at home after printing from film negatives taken on 400 ASA film in an old 35 mm Pentax camera. Development was 6 minutes in the developer specifically, a minute for the stopper, and about 7 minutes in the fixer.

And yeah, I am just beginning. This is about 4 months after picking up this camera for the first time and learning how to use it. =P

Yes, but which film, which developer, etc.

These things make a difference...

Uhhh.. Honestly, I have no idea what film or fluids. I'm doing this out of school, so I just used what was provided without question. I could find out sometime in the next few days though. lol

Please find out what you can. I will gladly provide ways to improve your negatives out of the can, but I have to know what you're working with first.

Do you have an email I could reach you at, or something? I have no idea how long threads tend to last in /p/, but I know they go pretty fast in other sections here.

This is the slowest board on 4chan. Even if no one posts in a thread, it'll last at least a day.

Lol. Aight. I'll take your word on that and try to get back sometime in the next few days.
