save up and get the SB-800 instead. Seriously.

I'm saving up for softboxes, umbrellas, light stands and lights... dunno what exactly yet but i sold a photo so i've got a couple hundred bucks to spend.

Wanted to get another lens but i thought getting cheap studio like lighting would be better
>> Anonymous
>>139356
Seriously? The 800 is almost twice as much and the differences aren't significant if it's not being used on old camera bodies.
>> thefamilyman !!rTVzm2BgTOa
i've got the SB600 and its fantastic, perhaps the best piece of equipment i got.
I was going to get a SB800 but i couldn't justify the price and i've never been 'limited' but the SB600.

For my remote flash, my D70 supports remote command and for all my other 10 cameras and bodies, the Nikon SC-28 or PC flash sync cables work fine.

There are rumours of a new top end flash coming out, you might want to hold of for a while unless you dont care about pc sync or other decent features.

Im saving up for either Sigma 20-40/2.8, 20-60/2.8 or 20-70/2.8

Canon 40D. I'm tired of one control wheel, and I wants me some better low-light focusing. Also, I dripped some shrimp sauce on my control wheel at the 2006 christmas party and it hasn't been the same since.

I have this lens, it's awesome.

Didn't like the photos taken with the 58/1.4, though.
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>139467

No. That didn't happen. You're thinking of some other poster. I've always said I wanted that one. I said that months ago when talking about using TCs with it and I showed images comparing with the 100-400.
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>139481

Also, to prod your memory: I was talking about using combined 1.4x TCs with it too. I put up some sample images if the image quality you get from it. Remember that conversation? It was a while ago now. I was quite excited about the idea at the time.
>> Anonymous
nope, what i remember

you were talking with ac about what's up on your next to purchase list

you said, i saved up $1,000 for the 70-200 2.8

i said, oh, might as well save up another $500 and get 2.8 IS because it doesn't make sense to be saving up for a long time just to get something missing a feature

you said something about paying an extra 50% of the cost is a big deal or something like that

i let it go because i don't like convincing people
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>139497
As someone who was involved in that discussion, I'm pretty sure you're remembering that wrong.
>> Anonymous
i remember everything
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>139497

That certainly wasn't me then. I've been aiming for this lens from the get go. I'm a big fan of IS and I was advocating using it and the TCs combined as a single lens replacement for the 100-400 + 70-200 combination. I also have to save up a lot more than $1000 for it. More like £1000.

I'm hoping Canon gets around to popping out a 5D: The Next Generation before I save up enough money for the 40D. I want full frame, but I also want the various advances that have happened in the years since the 5D was released, like better low-light autofocus performance and nicer menus.
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>139718

I was thinking about that too.

If it does come out though it will likely be the same sort of original price as the 5D was at and so out of reach for someone saving up for the now well discounted 40D. Hard decision for anyone who's got the cash in hand.
>> Anonymous
or you could just jump ship and get a d3 and call it a day
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>139740

I wouldn't actually be above doing that. For all the fun and teasing that goes on I've used the Nikon system and cameras and they too are lovely.

Of course am invested in the Canon system, so a move to the D3 would require it to be the be all and end all for it to be justified. With the way they all leapfrog each other over the years I may as well stick with his one unless there's a bigger and clearer trend showing up.

Nikon was Canon's bitch for ages, but they stuck it out and clawed their way back up again and they're making great stuff. Things always shift around like that.

>> Anonymous
My price is a bit optimistic but if it goes to the 3,000 mark then maybe it will get true 6400.

It's still not directly competing with the D3, there's the 1D and 1Ds for that.
