Canon EOS 400D aka Rebel XTi Anonymous
hey /p/,

I'm thinking of buying one of these together with a SIGMA EX 24-60 f/2.8 lens for christmas.

y/n?

I'm pretty much noob at photography and just wanna get started and be able to take some more decent shots than those point'n'shoot things can provide. This camera seems to be perfect... is it? And what about the Sigma lens?

Eh, I recommend a used 20D.

compatibility issues being front/back focus?
I mean - aren't they specifically designed for Canon DSLR bodies?

>And what about the Sigma lens?

It's not as wide on the short end as you're probably used to, so you might want to look at something wider (say, Tamron 17-50/2.8, which seems to be an almost universal recommendation for Canon owners who don't want the kit EF-S 18-55). Also,>>93081

they are specifically designed for cameras, with a canon mount thrown on. i dont use canon, nor do i use sigma lenses, but even i have heard about a fairly widespread problem with the focus being off.

For some reason Sigma can't get the interface between lens and camera to work flawlessly.

good idea, actually. I'll see what I can get... maybe I can make a good bargain.

Also, I guess camera bodies don't wear off that much, do they?

I've heard of plenty people using Sigma lenses on Canon cameras and having no troubles with it too. I've heard similar rumours that Nikon cameras have a terrible time with third party lenses and auto focusing. Try it and see is probably the only way to be sure, but I've seen good reviews in print publications that have praised some of the Sigma lenses for what they can do and the price.

One of the more popular bird lenses is the famous Sigma "Bigma" 50-500 zoom which can be had for a very reasonable price.

Issues like getting error 99 on some older lenses.

Yeah dont grab a 400d, grab a used 20d or 30d instead.

I wish the Canon cameras had two control wheels like the D80.

Other than the Rebels, they do.

But with them it's buried at the back of the camera rather than being up near the shutter where it should be. Far less convenient for manual control.

what are you two talking about?

Get the freaking 400d. Or a 350d if you're feeling cheap.

both are EXCELLENT starter dslr's, and will last you well into any beginnings of feeling more ontop of things and professional.

I've also heard the sigma 17-70 is ludicriously good for the price, and may actually buy it for myself pretty soon.

Seriously. Get the 400d. I have a 350d and it is EXACTLY what a beginner like me needed at the time, and even today makes me happy again and again.

The 400D does nearly everything the 40D does for half the price. 90% of the machine for 50% of the price. It's a bargain. If you buy the older cameras you're losing out on the newer image processing and other upgrades.

It seems I can get the 400D body for 548 € in the local stores and for about 485 € at the cheapest internet store.
The lenses are about the same.
Would you guys recommend buying it in the store around the corner because of possibly better support? I'm in doubt because ~60 bucks are kinda a lot of money. (Although I know I can get 70 bucks off via Canons cash back thingy)

The support is helpful, especially when it comes to trying out lenses. It's really up to you. If the extra money is eating into your camera budget then you can order the body from wherever you can get the best price.

Can't I run into the store (even with my new camera) and ask to try out their lenses and then possibly only buy a lens?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>93440
Not if they go out of business 'cause nobody buys cameras from them.

Yeah, I think that is a little dishonest when people do that. One of the staff on AP had a rant in a recent issue about that.

so it's moral against economy... damnit

It's the problem that if you like the service there then you have to spend money there or else it will be gone forever. You and everyone else can't keep using the shop staff's time for free. Especially the smaller independents (that often have the best service).

I own a 20D but I've used D80's, D70's and D200's and I much prefer the control layout on my camera. The front control wheel is right next to the shutter and the rear is right where my thumb naturally goes when holding the camera. On the Nikon I have to hold the camera awkwardly in order to use both control wheels at once.
>> Anonymous
>>93489
and for me, my D80's control wheels are right where my hands naturally go when i hold the camera. exactly why the only difference between canon and nikon is how you hold your camera!

So I guess Canon and Nikon users really are different from one another on the genetic level.

yup, the latter are born fags

i believe being gay is a choice, not genetic.
