Camera for macro photography? Anonymous
Hey, /p/.

I really love macro photography, and I want to get a good camera to do some with. Right now I have a crappy point and shoot digital, and it's holding me back. I have to hold a magnifying glass in front of it to even get a clear picture.

What would be a good camera for macro photography, and what macro lens should I get to go with it?

Oh, and here's one of the shots I've taken with the camera.

Did you hit the macro button?

A good macro lens is around 800 USD. That's still without the camera body.

Yes, I hit the macro button.

This was taken with the kit 18-55 mm lens supplied with my Nikon D90, cropped and resized by Aperture.

Most lenses, and the camera they're attached to, are capable of Macro, it's just a matter of zooming in while staying at a distance that the camera, or yourself, can focus upon.

Of course, there are specialist macro lenses, but how much money you outlay depends on your needs.

This shitty shot was taken, while drunk and playing with my camera, with my Powershot S5. The macro on that camera works at 0 mm, i.e. you can actually touch the lens against the subject.

I'm betting there's lenses for SLR's that can do the same, although I haven't looked.

Before you criticise, which I welcome as long as it's constructive, why don't you post a macro picture or two and contribute to the thread.

What would a good SLR be? Sorry for the questions, I'm just new to this and don't know any of the companies or anything.

And since I can't upload pictures for some reason right now, here's another one of my shots: http://img503.imageshack.us/my.php?image=s7002916rs8.jpg
