so i was looking in that pancake lens thread and i saw a bunch of Olympus cameras with konica hexanon lenses.

so my question is will this lens work on my E-510?

There's no point in using this 28mm f/3.5 on olympus; it'll have very little benefit over your usual 14-42 both in maximum aperture and sharpness.
But if you really want to, you'll need to modify it:
a) remove the aperture control prongs;
b) install a .5mm spacer ring or washers under the mount;
c) install a 1.5mm spacer ring over the mount;
d) optionally rotate the mount so the aperture scale isn't on the bottom.
Google it, there are a few guides with pictures.

im lookin for a somewhat cheap 50mm equivalent prime.
dont know if i want to spend 90 or whatever bucks on it and then possibly fuck it up though.

Well, you'll get a 56/3.5 equivalent prime, but f/3.5 is less than a stop improvement over the kit lens (zero improvement if you have the 14-54), and these old wide angles aren't exactly famous for sharpness.

I'm looking for a 40mm right now

not sure if i really care about getting a super fast lens, ive dont pretty well with my two kit lenses so far. it really comes down to sharpness though i think il wait to do a bit more research on that aspect of it. really im just looking for a cheap lens to learn with and build up some skill and from what i have read around here a 50mm is the way to go about doing that. if i remember correctly though zuiko makes a 50mm equivalent so il aslo do some research on that.

The 40/1.8 is awesomely light and sharp, but is disappointing for portraits due to bad bokeh (brightly outlined circles when wide open, circular saw shapes at f/2.8 and f/4). Also, make sure to get a lens hood, it's really prone to flare.

$250 street, which is a great price for what it is.
The picture of it on the new E-series is very tempting.

Japan has a hard-on for small photo gear (E-4xx series sells extremely good there), I guess Olympus is trying to cash on that. Every Western source reported a price of around $250.
