No. I have been shooting digital for 2 or 3 years and have started to dabble in film because it has sound advantages. The main one is that it allows me to use my existing EF lenses as full frame ultra-wides for landscape. Also I like the idea of taking time to take a photo hence developing my skills. And yes, it makes me feel "hipper" than the 2 billion newfags with a fucking $2k+ camera in their hands who think they are awesome.

No. I shoot digital, but I switched to film for a while because someone gave me a Minolta with 5 lenses for free, and because they tend to result in better photos.

Film in general shouldn't be associated with the recent hipster lomofaggotry.

For me, film is about achieving a certain "look" that's very hard to capture with digital, be it B&W or Velvia. It's also about working with equipment that's a really nice change from the hectic pace of working with my AF-slamming 8FPS hunk of magnesium and digital technology. It's really nice to hold a finely crafted classic camera, focus and set exposures totally manually, and remind me that I still love photography, something that's easy to forget when shoving lights around a studio all day, or running around a racetrack or trade show with ten pounds of lenses and a huge DSLR, and then spending all night importing, shopping, and uploading dozens of shots.

ITT: hipster filmfags try excuse themselves
>> Delicious !3GqYIJ3Obs
I shot film until recently because the equipment was cheap. Now I can afford a DSLR, so I shoot digital.
>> Project !dashI8UpO.
I shoot film cause I already have a complete set for my Canon A-1. A 24mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.4, and 70-210 f/4 MACRO while I only have one lens, a 28-80 f/3.5-5.6 for my D80.

I also think using the film advance lever is fun.
>> Anonymous
I shoot film because digital is full of trollfags like OP.
>> Anonymous
i use film because i shoot so little that it just isn't worth upgrading to digital if i need to buy a new lens

and shooting film keeps me from taking to many pics. I have way to many pics as it is.

and although i normaly use a "modern" film camera, old SLRs are fun. Its more about having fun taking the shot then getting a great picture. People don't ride oldtimers because they are better cars, they just do it because they enjoy it.
>> nokin !ozOtJW9BFA

f90x. doesn't LOOK like a film camera so you cant say i do it to look like a hipster.

although i do own a praktica MTL5 kinda like OPs pic but the shutter doesnt release anymore.

i don't like how everyone says "film" when they're pretty much speaking specifically of 35mm.

>i don't like how everyone says "film" when they're pretty much speaking specifically of 35mm.
1. What makes you think he's specifically speaking of 35mm? In fact, when most people here think "wannabe hipster faggot film photographer" they're probably thinking more along the lines of Holga or Diana users. I.e., 120.
2. What's wrong with thinking 35mm when you think film? It's by far the most common film format out there nowadays and likely will remain so for a good long while.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
i still shoot film because i started out on film. for a long time, i shot only film because i couldn't afford a digital slr. eventually, i saved up enough money to buy one, and now i can't really afford to shoot film.

oh, the irony.

oh, and when i have the money, i like to shoot film because print film can still do stuff that digital has trouble with, like massive dynamic range.

1. i wasn't talking about anyone in this thread.
2. i didn't say there was anything wrong with it. i said i don't like it. i am the type of person who specifies things like that. you are probably right about it being the most widely used type of film. to me, that doesn't justify using such a general term for the sake of saving a few syllables.
i guess i'm just lucky enough to be able to take that extra amount of time out of my day to say "thirty-five millimeter"

>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA

Are you also the sort of person who specifically says microcomputer when you mean the sort of computer small enough to fit on a desktop? That's the correct term, after all--minicomputers are the ones that are about the size of a small fridge, and 'computer' per se refers to the big mainframe types.

Granted, 'computer' is also a general term that refers to all of them, and microcomputers are by far the most common type to be talking about in this day and age. But if you want to be needlessly precise, you should be needlessly precise across the board, eh what?
>> Mr._Laugh_Out_Loud !!rc0QDfC1oX3
>>270733

i suppose it filters down to opinion. i don't see specifying 35mm as "needlessly precise" - you do; our opinions are obviously different

i actually use the term "PC" for desktop machines. surprisingly enough however, i do acknowledge the term "computer" as a reference to large mainframe designation machines, and not in the general sense of something that computes.
so i guess i am needlessly precise almost across the board as far as you are concerned. this has been a refreshing break-down

>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>270669
Even if that were true, why would that matter? Saying "I eat food" is totally true even if you just eat carrots. Saying that you eat carrots would be more precise but it's not hateworthy to use a more general term like food or vegetables. They're not lying, or pretending to do something they're not.

Or is it because we don't qualify as fellow hipsters in your eyes if we don't shoot esoteric formats? Fuck you.
>> Mr._Laugh_Out_Loud !!rc0QDfC1oX3
> a mac

a what?
>> Mr._Laugh_Out_Loud !!rc0QDfC1oX3
i'm sorry, burn me at the fucking stake because i specify different film formats.
i seriously hope that was trolling with the food reference. there are thousands if not millions of different types of foods one can eat (as well as different views on what IS food and what is not). there are a hand-full of widely produced film formats. also, if you asked a person what type of food they eat, they would probably tell you what type of food it was that they fucking eat. my gripe is with a lot of chodes that i ask the question "what type of format do you shoot?" at school or wherever, and they reply "OH I SHOOT FILM"
the way i see it, it's not too much to ask for people to say what type of film they're using. it's not as though it captures my hatred when they don't though. fuck.

"hateworthy" lol. i don't think my snooty-ness could be classified as hate

In regards to the epic faggotry, I believe that since there are now two major categories of cameras, saying that you use film instead of 35mm or whatever the fuck you shoot is acceptable.
