Does anyone have a Canon 450D aka XSi Rebel?

I am going to get one soon, and I was wondering if anyone had one, and could tell me how they are. :)

I have an XTi and it was plenty good. Have you held up an XSi? (if you have how good are the new ergonomics)
>> Anonymous
most common SLR ever, tons of people here have one

Nope, Anon, OPs talkin about the XSi, the new version. Most have the XT/XTi... but the new one's body was almost completely remodeled.
>> Camera Ashley
Well, I haven't yet had a chance to hold one. I plan to as soon as I can find one here in town.

So, they are good then, since they seem to be popular?

I am assuming it is much like the 400D, which I have heard is great
>> Camera Ashley
Yes, the new one. Indeed, that is what I meant. ^^;

They are. Some people complain about the build, but it really isn't as bad as they make it sound.
>> Camera Ashley
Is it bulky? Or wider? It looks fine to me, but like I said, I have yet to hold one. Are they sturdy?

I shoot a 400D, but I got a chance to play around with a 450D about a month ago in a shop. Ergonomics were slightly different from my camera, but it was very similar. Larger viewfinder, liveview, and spot-metering were welcome changes.

As a kit, the kit lens is a fine lens too. The XTi includes the older 18-55 lens that's pretty poor. The XSI includes the 18-55 IS which is a remarkably better lens.

Oh nice...thank you for your help!

I am pretty sure this is the camera I want, I just tought I would see what people were saying about it ^^

Live view and spot metering...where have I see that stuff before on entry level DSLRs? I can't put my finger on it...
>> Anonymous
*cough NIKON *cough*
>> Anonymous
I really don't think I would use live view with a dSLR.
Does anyone else feel the same?

Yeah, its abit of a gimmick - although could come in handy with certain situations.

live-view without a tilt screen..

gimmicky as shit

Not OP, I just don't want to burden /p/ with another thread. Should I go with a Nikon D80 ($730) or Canon 450D ($800)? I know the body isn't as important as the lenses and any body will usually do same as any manufacturer but the difference in price is somewhat negligible because I see this as an investment and I'm cheap so I'd rather get the better one even if it's by a little bit or the one that would last me the longest.

Most of the qualities that the 450D has over the D80 seem rather superficial while the qualities that the D80 has over the 450D are really important. Especially it having a longer expected shutter life because I plan to build my lens collection around it and only swap it out after it dies which is hopefully a long time away.

fk you hijacker :P

nah but im stuck between the same cameras... anyone know which is best? like which has the most advantages?
>> Anonymous
>>200184

do not decide just by that table on DPR because the info, more often than not, is wrong

>> Most of the qualities that the 450D has over the D80 seem rather superficial

14 bit a/d
3.5 FPS
"superiority" of CMOS over CCD, if you can't accept that, the D80 is two generations old, shit gets better with time

and both will take "film" lenses, except the D80 will take more but they won't meter or focus anyway

you sound like you're a nikonfag, so get the D80

The D80 has a better viewfinder (pentaprisms are brighter than pentamirror, higher magnification), ergonomics, Nikon has a better flash system, the quality of the plastics used is probably better too (basing this off of my friend's 400D). But it's getting pretty old now and the noise is really bad if you fuck up the exposure (it's ok when you nail it though). However I still like mine, I take great pictures with it (the colours on out of cam jpegs are yummy) and they only upgrade I'd see is to a D300.

Frankly, you can trust Nikon gear. The same goes for high end Canon gear. It's reliable. It's sturdy. It will take the abuse that goes with professional rigors. You can pick up a Nikon every day, and use it, just like you use a tool. Hell, you can drive nails with old Nikons. That's the quality we're talking about here.

what about 40d vs 450d? is there anything in 450d that makes it better than 40d (no matter how silly this might sound)?
>> Anonymous
>>200469
The 450D is cheaper.
>> Anonymous
>>200488
And smaller and probably (this is a guess) has a quieter shutter.

But the 40D is still the way to go between them for most users.

>>200492
If by most, you mean, those who know what they're doing.
>> Anonymous
>>200492
The 450D and below is for most users. They won't be using the 40D to its full awesome potential. It would be a waste.

For the price, you don't get any better photos do you?
>> Anonymous
get an old 1dmk2...you can find them with under 100k actuations for a little over a grand...rape the shit out of all the aforementioned. Same advice a gave to a friend recently and he's been thrilled with his

>>200507
if by "little over" you mean "very close to 2k"... it's still too expensive.

how does Sonly Alpha300 and Olympus E520 fares against 450D?
