Hey /p/,

Look what my girlfriend's mother gave me yesterday (pic related). She wasn't sure if it still worked but I charged the battery and ran some Tmax through it and it works perfectly. Do I win?

It's a Rolleiflex 6006 6x6 medium format SLR with Polaroid back.

I'm gonna get some provia and polaroid for it tomorrow when calumet is open. I can't wait to see what this thing can do in color.

Two points regarding Polaroid.

1. Ilford is in negotiations with Polaroid to buy/take over production of at least part of the existing Polaroid product line.

2. Fuji makes instant pack films that fit that and any other medium format Polaroid back. Often cheaper than the Polaroid equivalent, nicer image, and the actual speed is more accurate than the Polaroid equivalent, making it better for proofing for chromes.

Oh, and one more thing. OP is a fucking lucky bastard.

OP - you do realize how much that thing sells for new, right? Again, you're a lucky bastard!

Fifty years worth of professional photographers, living and dead, are facepalming right now.

Yes, that's right. You're making the dead facepalm.

6x6 polaroids aren't very exciting as anyone who's used a one on a MF camera should know. They're mostly used for checking lighting but it's faster, cheaper and easier to use a digital camera to check lighting then take the shot with the MF.

I bought a pack of Fuji FP-100c instant film for the polaroid back. Here's a shot I took at the protest of the Olympic torch at the Golden Gate Bridge. Not very interesting but the back works at least.

Also, because it wasn't in the first pic - even the pull tab on the polaroid back is super sexy. A testament to German over-engineering; five screws just to hold those two pieces of tab together.

I loves me some overengineering. God I wish I could afford the overengineered version of all my stuff...
>> Warren !WSxruxpIJs
While I'm thinking of it, have you used backs like this before? If not, make sure to keep the rollers from getting crusty. A q-tip and some rubbing alcohol is all you need. One roller should spin freely, and the other should turn but with some resistance.
>> Anonymous
>>155951
its not overengineered, its just securely joined. overengineering would be having some elaborate system of clamps and shit to hold the tabs together.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>155953
No that is overengineering

I've used them on Hasselblads a handful of times and while I've never actually cleaned the rollers that's what I've always been told. I'll be sure to keep this one clean.
>> Anonymous
>>155959
disagree since it takes basically no extra engineering to add 2 extra screws for extra strength. man, i just used the word extra 3 times in that sentence.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>155964
that could easily be attached with sheet metal work, using screws at all is pretty much over engineering.

No you, good sir.
>> Anonymous
>>155965
its holding two pieces together on top of each other. what sheet metal work would you do to hold them together that is more simple than some screws?
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>155967
lip + 180 press

Most pull tabs on these have a rolled edge on the sheet metal that wraps around a pin. Very simple.

i suppose. must be my mindset from working where i do now. everything we build should be able to be made quickly and easily be taken apart either to maintain or break down and reuse.
