Hello /p/
Got my first "real" camera this summer. A Nikon D40 with the 18-55mm kit lense. I would appreciate any input/tips/advice you could give me as a starting photographer on how to improve my pics. Here's one I took today.

First advice: RESIZE, FAG

Also, any suggestions on what lense to get next?
I've been thinking about the Nikkor AF-S DX VR 55-200mm. Are there any others I should consider (fisheye, 50mm etc)?

sigma 30mm f/1.4. similar 50mm is available soon. nikon has no fast primes in AFS yet, avoid AF ones unless you want to manual focus - although i used an old 70-300mm manual focus lens on my d40 recently and it really wasn't bad at all. meter worked fine, and focus indicator works in the viewfinder. i found that experimenting with DOF and available-light to be more fun than telephoto stuff.

I'm going to be buying a D40 soon too. Cause I'm a poorfag and my boss won't lend me his D80 even though he has a D300.

"Real" indeed.

The D40 is a fucking toy.

Regardless of the camera used, i enjoy OP's picture quite a bit.

Well it was about the best I could afford. And it is a lot better than a 3.2 MP pocket cam from like 2002.
