Hay /p/

I'm going to a comic/animu/mango con today, there ought to be weaboos running rampant dressed up as their favorite characters. I've never been to one, but would like to see if I can get some shots. The architecture around the convention center's interesting too, with the inclusion of a disused foundry/factory (landmark in my city)

For safety, I'm only taking one lens: which one (or combination maybe) do you suggest?

18-55 3.5-5.6 (kit)
28-75 F/2.8
50 1.8

Pic related, but not mine, first result in google.

The 28-75 would probably give better IQ than the kit lens and has a little wider aperture. I'm guessing you're using a crop body, so you may feel that it isn't too wide a lens for group shots. If you have enough room to move or don't plan on taking shots of big dorky groups in tight spaces then it isn't an issue.

The 50 1.8 would be ideal for the light, but it may also be a little long and restrictive for the occasion. I'd bump the ISO up and go with the zoom instead.

The 18-55 would allow for wide shots, but has a narrower aperture (so you'd have to use a higher ISO and reduce the quality of your image as a result) and is likely less pleasing for general image quality and focusing ability.

Put a hood on the lens in case some doofus bumps into you. Works well as protection.

Make sure you get plenty shots of any hot girls in skimpy clothing or leather/PVC suits and post them here. I know ac and I will certainly appreciate it.

Alright, thanks man 28-75 it is. I thought the 18-55 + 50 might be viable too, but fuck switching lenses in such a place.

If space is at a premium perhaps the 18 would be useful at times, but I don't like taking portraits at 18mm and the likely poor lighting (for photography) and lesser quality of the 18-55 would mean it would be second place unless I knew I would need it for certain.

I would probably end up just taking a small bag though and changing lenses if I needed to.

True, I took most of my pictures at 28mm f/2.8 and flash.
I didn't find it to necessary to use the 18mm because with a bit of patience you could get enough space

Yeah whatever, people in cons over here are generally ugly anyways (sadly not even kidding).

Pretty good composition though.

I've found the same at times. Often a little patience and thought and willingness to move around can help out in such situations. The worst is when people stand rooted to the spot and zoom in and out, almost as if they are refusing on some moral grounds to ever move to get a shot.
