Hey guys. I have a macro studio setup and want to take some photos of objects but be able to see some of the back of the object reflected back from a shiney surface. Any tips on how to do that without reflecting lights and room too much?

your best bet is to angle it in a way it reflects the back along with some of the black of the box. you wont be shooting directly into the box, but at an angle into it. sounds kind of lame though, and youre just trying to get ass into the picture just for the sake of ass.

Yeah true that. Might just put objects on top of shiney black surface instead for mirror effect.

seems very neat man, it was DIY?

looks like he might be using a chair or something from the texture of the ground and you can kind of see something that looks like the bottom meeting the back.

Pretty simple setup. I roll different colored papers from the desk up the back wall. Works well.

Some images pop more depending on several variables including the color background you choose.

My biggest problem is always getting enough reflected light. I wonder if a proper reflectors rather than the tin foil stuff will work better.

you might try different lighting. all your shots have the same lighting, which is kind of a dull light from the left.

That's a 150w daylight energy saver behind tracing paper. It's to soften the light on skin tones. I may experiment with different light when I can get some different types of bulbs.

Finding suitable backdrops is always a challenge. Thsi one just works. I processed the hell out of it though in Lightroom.

not saying different types of bulbs, just closer, farther, more lights, different positions, without diffuser, etc.

It's something to play around with when I am bored indoors. I am looking at what other things to take macro shots of next. I will probably get a led light ring for those though since my S2 has no PC flash output.

One more thing. How do I get a deep black/dark background without losing light on the front of a subject? A low wattage bulb from the front?

you seem to have a lot of talent with lighting like this, i'm sure you could do great things if you had a DSLR
>> Anonymous

Thanks. I will one day. It's all about the monies.
>> Anonymous
>>88979
not to be mean but, its not really "a lot of talent" since its you know...one of the most basic lighting set-ups you can have. like...the guy didnt even try anything different.

I will try different things. I just wanted to get some good shots of my figure collection initially to post to a figure collectors forum. I will experiment with other lighting and backdrops/angles/closeups later. Previously I used the flash from my popup flash sent through a tube with tin foil inside and kitchen towel at the other end to send to light to the end of the camera lens. Example.
