who buys these things? seriously..why buy a huge bridge camera when you can get a DSLR for about the same price that will outperform it
>> Anonymous
Thats the thing. A dSLR will cost me more. And it isn't as big as it looks.

So then why not buy just a normal compact point n shoot?

Bridge cameras look ridiculous.
The whole idea behind them is stupid, imo.

Bridge camera's are a great niche between cheap compact camera's and expensive dSLR's.

So, the idea behind them is actually pretty good.

All I want to know if this camera is a good buy for it's price.

barely. op, look at the DMC-LX3

>And it isn't as big as it looks.

this may be, but it's still just a slightly-more-capable point&shoot, and it won't fit in your pocket. that, to me, is cumbersome. if i have a camera big enough that it has to be on a strap around my neck or in my sack when not in my hands, it's going to be a dslr. i just won't carry a cumbersome camera unless it has capabilities at least equal to that of a decent dslr.

forgive the krockwell plug, but seriously, a nikon d40 is relatively small and lightweight. it can put out some great images in the right hands, and can be found refurbished by nikon for 350 bucks shipped on the HIGH END.

How about a D40? It is a dSLR, probably the cheapest. The problem always is, is that I cant choose which lens to buy.

also available on the d40 is 1/500 flash sync. a must have for any half-way serious flash user
>> Anonymous
get a D40 I have one, and its a great beginner SLR, when you get more money and advance get a 55-200 and a SB-600 then looking way ahead in the future you can use your lenses/flashes for a new body if you ever upgrade
>> Anonymous
1/500 sync speed is basically a necessity for anybody who cares about ever using flash for good pictures
>> Anonymous

fucking lold
>> Anonymous
>>263564
Yet, since it has a base ISO of 200, if you are trying to overpower the sun, then that is equal to a camera with 250 sync shooting iso 100.

>>263605

I lol'd fuckin hard
>> Anonymous
>>263594
what? What the fuck are you talking about? I done flash and even fill-flash with cameras that only sync at 1/90 second
>> Anonymous
>>263605

mind=blown
>> Anonymous
1/500 is required for stopping motion in in a low light environment
>> Anonymous
>>263611

with enough light, you can "freeze motion" at any speeds

and having a fast sync speed has shit FUCK ALL to do with freezing motion
>> Anonymous
it does actually. forgive the krockwell plug, but he's actually totally correct about this shit:

Lucky strobes only last for 1/1000th of a second then isn't it? Even the cheapest ones. Fast synch speeds are for cutting down the ambient light if it's too bright.

5dmk2 flash sync 1/250
d300 1/250
d90 1/200

I could go on and on here. d40s only have fast sync because they don't have a shutter. lol@d40isgreat
