Does your DSLR have it?
>> Anonymous
Canon EOS 30D - No :(
>> Anonymous
i dont care if i have it or not.
>> Anonymous
Is it as awesome/necessary as the hype surrounding it?
>> Anonymous
>>96527
Depends. If I learned to photograph on film, with the set of focal lengths one gets with the available lens options on film (e.g. 50mm as normal, etc.) I definitely would shoot full-frame, just to keep working in a familiar environment.

If I was a fan of extreme wide angles, I might, depending on how satisfied I was with the various ultrawide options for APS-C. I'm not, so I haven't even looked into them.

Full-frame will give you slightly better image quality and lower noise. If you really need it or fall into one of the two categories above, full frame is worth it. If not, APS-C will do fine. And very few people actually need the extra image quality, or even own the lenses needed to take advantage of it.
>> Anonymous
Don't have, don't need, don't care.
>> Anonymous
Why is the 'full frame' thing so hailed upon? I understand the less noise, etc. thing but you never see 120 equivelant numbers on 35mm lenses. and you never saw 35mm equivelant numbers on 110 cameras...
>> Liquefied !!CF1+3tSFCce
Less noise and the cameras that have it are badass in general (5D, 1Ds series). I will have it soon.
>> Anonymous
>>96542

because 35mm was far and away the biggest selling format after the 1960's. everyone and their grandma knows what a 28mm lens does.
>> Anonymous
>>96521
OP here, I am retarded because I did not do any research before I trolled. To tell you the truth, I suck cocks to save up money so I can buy a P&S because I think they are better than any dslr.
>> Anonymous
>>96547
The 5D isn't so badass. It has less noise (I think) than any camera out right now, with the possible exception of the D3 I don't know much about, and full-frame image quality. Other than those things coming solely from the larger chip, it's pretty much a run of the mill semi-pro DSLR.
>> Anonymous
>>96551
Ya the 5D is like a great sensor in a shitty body, all of the pro features Canon saves for its top of the line (aka $5000 +) Lineup

Same thing with the 40D, high FPS, good processing on the traditional (For canon sensor), mediocre everything else.

Nikon is a little backwards from that, considering the AF systems it puts in its <$2000 camera's. In fact their D300 is killing the D2X and D2Hs sales, because in pretty much every way it is superior and cheaper!
>> Anonymous
I lust after a 1D, but i'll never afford it :(
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
Full Frame is marketing speak, and in that regard is Canon's biggest success on their road to market dominance.

I mean think about it, the language of the word implied anything else is less than complete, less than full... inferior.

Since Canon was the only company (aside from the failed Kodak) with a 35 Equiv sensor, their own crop cameras escaped some of that flack.

Every other company producing APS-C however would seem pointless and indeed it was the trumpeting call for Canon fanboys everywhere.

Note how Nikon rarely refers to the FX format as full frame or even at all. They're creating the FX system within their own marketing FX + DX.

FULL FRAME is anything but that... if 35mm equiv is full frame then what the hell is MF? or LF?
>> Anonymous
>>96598
Good point. What'll we call it then? 36x24 is a little awkward, though it shouldn't be. 4x5 (inches), 6x6 (centimeters), etc. all sound nice.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>96643

you're exactly right, it sounds backwards... but is it? We still call digital MF... MF or 4 by 5...

... but like i said, it's a great marketing success because it's the prevalent term.

I usually just say 35 equiv or FX, when referring to Nikon. My problem with Full Frame is it's implied degradation of APS-C and below...

new name though? man... i'm not in marketing haha
>> thefamilyman !!rTVzm2BgTOa
My F5 is full frame, and changeable sensors too :D
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>96712

LOL, so is my F6... which essentially is a D2x stripped of its CMOS sensor! HA!

But man, how good are the viewfinders eh?... i really shoot more film... i just have no where to develop it myself anymore... ever since my mate's journalist brother moved to Shanghai.

Bah
>> thefamilyman !!rTVzm2BgTOa
>>96727
want to sell your F6? My F5 is just far too heavy, makes me think on how ppl cope with a D2x, similar weight, and mine is nearly 10 years old.
But the F5 removable titanium viewfinder is so huge and bight, i simply love it.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>96729

hehe i would man, but my last reminder of the good ol days. You'll prob hate me more to find out i gor it from a camera store at it's closing down sale for a fraction of its original cost.

Felt guilty about buying it actually.

And yeah, it really is alot less bulky than the F5.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>96732

The prices some of these pro film bodies are going for now is amazing. Not long ago they cost a fortune and now you can pick up some for the same price as a budget camera.

How do you find the IQ and noise at 50ISO compared to 100ISO?
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>96736

If Nikon doesn't announce another FX model that's close to the 5D, i will switch to Sony just so i can piss Nikon off.

That's right Nikon, i'd rather goto a shittier manufacturer than wait any longer.
>> Anonymous
Yep

5D here
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
Nope. On a crop sensor here. Maybe one day, though with the way the crop sensors are developing and improving I might never get around to it.

>>96779

i get the feeling nikon doesn't give a shit about you
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>96815

You'd be surprised. Nikon still cares. Jeremo and Nikon go way back. They used to date in high school. They were just excited kids and the world seemed so full of promise for them. Sadly though, things never really worked out for them and Jeremo had to end it. They had different dreams and hopes for the future that didn't mesh. A messy ending that neither wanted to happen. Even though they stopped talking to each other and drifted apart over the years Nikon never really got over it and still holds a special place in its heart for him. True story.

To see Jeremo with Sony would break Nikon's heart.

Not at the moment, but if my company can aford it i'll by a Nikon D3 next year

It's unfortunate that Butterfly is away right now.

>>96923

We need someone to cover for Butterfly and her duties here as Sony troll and fangirl.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>96926

My comment about switching to Sony was obviously a shout out to Butterfly.

Seriously though, does anyone actually still believe that it was a girl? Anyone could come here and say they're a girl.... Butterfly never proved it and honestly i never felt he typed like a girl either.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>96932
Seemed like a girl to me.

I'm pretty trusting that way, though. Sure, it leads to me occasionally having to suck someone's cock when I get it wrong, but I think that it's important to maintain that level of politeness with people vis a vis their preferred gender representation.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>96932

I don't know, I've certainly met girls who were similar in character. You'd be surprised how varied people can be. Of course it doesn't make a great deal of difference either way unless you are planning to woo Butterfly(?).

I think it's a little unfair that anyone that says they are female has to "prove" it. Half the population is female and they are able to use PCs too, it's not like claiming you're in the SAS or have six fingers. Not every woman enjoys leaping through hoops like a camwhore either. Probably why so many of them post as males or gender neutral online. It's only creepy when it's done with the aim to lure people into meetings or to send dirty pictures.

If he or she wishes to portray themselves that way then it's no skin off my nose even if it's not true. In the end it's only text posts I ever see anyway. As long as they are worth reading I'm happy.
>> Anonymous !MjcMqTX/iM
>>96943
Seconded.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>96943

You make a valid and reasonable argument. I will agree and relinquish any future debate on Butterfly's penis.
>> Anonymous
Yeah, I think Butterfly's writing perfectly fits the way I would think a somewhat cheeky, slightly tomboyish British clubgirl studying aeronautical engineering who goes to rifle ranges would.

The only thing that seems a bit odd is that she uses English pretty well for a young Briton... every other teen or twenty-something some Britain whose Internet writing I've read is absolutely filthy with cell phone speak, for whatever reason. ("u" for "you," etc.)
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
ADDITIONALLY: Has Butterfly ever actually claimed to be a woman? I've noted that I thought she was female when other people have reffered to him/her/it as "he" (due to the name, primarily), but I don't think butterfly him/her/itself has ever stated unequivocally one way or the other...
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>96985

Yeah 'she' has. That's why i was so skeptical.

IM BACK IM BACK IM BACK!

uh... what?
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
in other news.

Sony doing A900 in full frame shocker so ner u.

afaik i have never claimed to be a girl because of the ensuing shitstorm that follows it which I dont give a shit about. if i wanted loads of geeky 4channers drooling over me id post pictures all the time and constantly make it obvious that i am a girl. however I prefer to be judged on my thoughts and pictures here so i will continue to post them.

Also ofc i speak/type reasonable english i am an educated person!

Sony's A900.

Yeah got some stunning ones, will post tommorow or sometime soon.

I now want either a 400/2 or a 200/2 or something like this.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>97060

Sounds promising.

Those long primes like a 400/2.8 are great and would be wonderful to have, but the cost makes my eyes water. I think Canon even made a 200mm 1.8 too.
>> Anonymous
>>97018
You have claimed to be a girl.

And yeah, you'd think educated people would do that, but for some reason, every relatively young Briton except you whose Internet communications I've read types like a thirteen year old on a cell phone, or at least more in that direction than the average other Anglophone. Maybe it might just be an overgeneralized impression in my head or something.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>97064

I think you have a horribly stereotyped image in your head, really.

Plenty of young women can write well, even when they choose not to disclose that they are women to you on the internet. Who can say how many of the Anons here are women too? The ones with eye-searing prose are the ones you are probably remembering best and that's skewing it somewhat.

I've seen lots of guys use terrible texting short hand and AOL speak in all sorts of situations.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>97064

Thank you, she's lying about it now.... TRAAAAP!!

haha i kid.

Oh where info on the A900 being 35mm Equiv? i havent seen any specs or even rumour of specs.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>97067

I nominate Jeremo to go and meet up with Butterfly to settle this once and for all. If she's genuine then there's no more debate and if it turns out to be a trap then most likely there will also be no more debate. It's a win/win situation.

Sony need to get more lenses for the cameras they already have out there before worrying about releasing new sensor formats.
>> Anonymous
>>97066
I only said "girl" in reference to Butterfly claiming to be one, which she has.

I said "every young Briton," of either gender not "every young female Briton." No implications about gender or even writing off the Internet.

I probably do have a horribly stereotyped image in my head of the Internet writing of the group in the question: "Maybe it might just be an overgeneralized impression in my head or something."

But I just get the impression that Britons of between 18-25 or thereabouts are more prone to that sort of thing than any other Anglophone demographic.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>97071

Dude, no way. I know he's a man. I'll get surprise butt sexed...

no no, no thank you.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>97072

Then you should probably look at what many under 18 year old kids write if you think 18-25 is the age group most prone to it. You've clearly not seen much or enough if that is your conclusion. dA, Myspace and any other social networking site is a cesspit for that sort of language. I've seen it done even by non-English speakers. It's not especially confined to the British. I've seen more Americans do it during my time on the web, if only because of their greater numbers show it up more to the viewer.

Personal impressions are rarely worth much in objective analysis of something like that. Too easy for it to be skewed.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>97075

Go on. Take one for the team. I'll donate some cash for some extra strength condoms and lube to make sure that even if the worst happens it goes as easy as possible for you.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>97080

hmmm so my choices are... get bro raped by Butterfly or impaled by his Soy Alphail...

I'm sorry team. I'm out.
>> Anonymous
>>97076
Well, I mean, above the middle school and high school freshman age where it's just to be expected.

But you're right: I fully acknowledge this is a subjective, personal impression.

It also isn't meant as a slight against anyone who doesn't write that way who happens to fall into the demographic.
>> Marketing vs Engineering Threadender
Sorry to bring this thread back on track, but I have to voice a complaint here. As an engineer I absolutely loathe how the guys in marketing use the same buzzwords for two different things. For me, full frame is a method of shuttering and reading out the sensor, not a sensor size. In my opinion, this is just as stupid and confusing as the megapixel race and will only alienate the professional consumers in the long run. Thanks for listening.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>97243

Even from a consumer's perspective i agree, it complete distorts what the beneficial aspects of the product and veers it towards a direction that may not benefit the consumers. A grand example of that is what you said about Megapixels.

The fact that the market presumes that More megapixel = better quality has led to camera companies to become lazy bastards... instead of developing better sensors, they just add a few more megapixels and add a shithouse noise reduction feature.

...it saves them money on R&D and shit eating consumers who don't know any better just buy it all up.
