Hey /p/.

I just discovered my dad has one of these (Minolta Maxxum 5000 AF) which he keeps in storage becouse he doesnt use it anymore. The grip is broken, but according to him it works fine. Other than that he has a couple of lenses (one macro and one telezoom). He doesnt use it anymore becouse he got a DSLR (Not sure which, forgot the model), and I think I can keep that one.

I know this is a paper SLR, most likeley not a starter level camera, but I'm new to the whole photography world, and I was considering getting a small superzoom, but now I'm wondering if it's worth the investment buying the new cam or using this one.

What do you reccomend?

Also, any experience with this camera? Is it any good?

There's little reason to use a half-broken 5000 when you can get a pristine one for like $40.

It's a decent camera; though with film, any camera body which provides half-decent metering, winds film correctly and doesn't leak light is OK. The technical quality of your pictures depends mostly on the lenses and film itself.

I'll just get a DMC-FZ7.

Don't waste your money on a superzoom. If nothing else, get yourself a used Sony Alpha A100 and you can use those Maxxum lenses on it.

this, or a new A200, for less than $500

You should get a sony a200 or a used a100 for cheap, you'll have a nice set of lenses to use on those DSLRs. Minolta lenses are awesome!

I'm asking becouse for some reason I belive the A200K has more features, but I found a A200 for 5.000.000clams and an A200K for 3.500.000clams.

Yes, I dont live in the USA.

Well, after putting a lot (Maybe not a lot, but some) of thought to this, I decided to not get the Sony and save the cash (mostly becouse I dont have it).

I'm going to use the Maxxum 5000. If it is as you say, that the camera has such a minimum effect on the output photo, this might be a fun little experiment to run. Plus, since I'm only doing this for fun, it'll be interesting guessing how shots will come out, and slowly learning how to use the camera.

Thanks for the tips, as soon as I have pictures I'll post them, even if they might be crap.

Clam=Arbitrary expression for odd monetary unit (odd meaning not common for most of the world).

I was reffering to Venezuelan Bolivares when I said clam.
