wow, someone paid 70 dollars for that piece of shit?
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
how long until you come bounding into some argument with that old chestnut, "i'm a professional. i actually sell photos. ergo, i'm totally right when i say..."??

a week? two weeks?
>> Anonymous
>>121984

If there is one thing the Internet has taught me about photography, it's that selling photos doesn't mean shit about your ability to actually take good ones.
>> Anonymous
>>121984
this argument works only in conjunction with the posession of expensive gear, not just a sony 828.
>> Anonymous
This is actually an older photo of mine. Since then ive bought a Nikon D40x with a Sigma 105mm macro lens.

Please tell me how this photo is shit, thanks.

Hold on it looks like shit with the website resize.

Here it is without shitty resize

1. It's a boring garage
2. Cars in the background keeps it from being interestingly abstract. It pulls it back to being a boring garage
3. Camera's juuuuust tilty enough to get on my nerves
>> Anonymous
>>122001

Hardly boring in my eyes. I love minimal photos.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
did you sell the "Photo" Or a print?
If you sold the photo and therefore your rights to the picture, You got ripped off (not because the pic is awesome, but because selling your rights to a photo usually goes for 1000-10,000$
(As you give up any right you have to use the picture and they can use it for whatever they want / resell it.
>> Anonymous
>>122006

I sold a print of the photo.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>122007
Then congrats. How big was the print?

11" x 14" :)

good stuff
I usually only sell prints framed (if you do find a wholesaler, the mark up in retail framing stores is 100-200%), Then I ask $300-450 (Depending on the client) For 12x36's Framed (at 20x44" single matte)
And I only charge my friends $125 lol (Which nets me about $50 profit still.

pic related. The small dark pic is a 4x6 lol, These are pretty huge.

Nice try, OP.
>> Anonymous
I actually like this photo a lot OP. Personally I don't see why it's getting so much negative feedback.
>> Anonymous
>>122017

I thought it would be obvious that it was me posting that. From now on I guess ill just put "OP here" before a post.
>> ken-t !wQS5KmrMzU
how do you guys sell your photos?
any tips/tricks? Do you have to have sales skills, or just good photos?
Also, how do you set the price?
>> Anonymous
The photos not that great, but the fact that you sold it is definitely win.
>> Ken Rockwell
>>122030
>Do you have to have sales skills, or just good photos?

Look at OP's photo. That should answer your question.
>> Anonymous
>>122030

I sold mine off of a gallery website. They set the price for me. I have no sales skills, haha. Someone liked the photo, so they bought it.
>> Anonymous
>>122051

This is op btw.
>> ken-t !wQS5KmrMzU

mind telling me which website?
any other routes of sales other than online?? how to get started??
>> Anonymous
>>122056

give me your e-mail and ill tell you about it. You do have to be reasonably good to have your work posted. You must apply, and then they will decide if you can put your work on the site
>> Anonymous
>>122012

The thing, though, is that those two framed photos you posted rock my dick off. I agree with ac on this one, basically being that its a tilty, kinda close at being neat but not picture

OP, does it cost an money on your part to put your pictures up?
>> Anonymous
>>122066

Nope
>> Anonymous
Could you put the address of the website up so I could have a look at it then?
>> Anonymous
>>122059

Im not sure why you dont like this photo that much. Mostly everyone ive shown it to really likes it. Heres some of my other work so you can decide if its "reasonably good", haha.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/jcasalena/

Some of it sucks, and I know which ones suck, so dont bother posting it
>> Anonymous
>>122072
a lot of photos that suck you can show to an average person and theyll think its good. we, however, are photographers, so we are generally a lot pickier and such when it comes to photos.
>> Anonymous
>>122070

OP's afraid of the competition.
>> Anonymous
>>122068

In that case, could you post the link to the website? Even if this is /p/ and not /b/, I still don't want to post my email.
>> Anonymous
>>122075

The site is ugallery.com

The only reason I was hesitant about posting it on here was because it has my full name on it, and even if this isnt /b/, I usually dont like to post any details about myself on 4chan
>> Anonymous
>>122072

Your post is misleading, saying that some of it sucks insinuates some of it doesn't suck.
>> Anonymous
>>122082

Somehow my threads always turn into this, so I'm about to close the thread. It always starts out as "yeah thats pretty cool" or "I like it", and then somehow a bunch of retards show up and go "ALL UR SHIT SUX", "THIS SUCKS, SAGE LOLOL"
>> Anonymous

>Somehow my threads always turn into this

Then maybe you should learn to take a hint.

Collegiate? What if we're 15 year old American schoolgirls and wanted to see if someone would buy her pictures so she could afford to go abroad on student exchange and if she should be encouraged to dabble farther into photography?! WHAT THEN FANCY COLLEGIATE WEBSITE?

Right with>>122085and>>122082, wrong on the last case.
Stop thinking you're good because you managed to sell a snapshot (which is what pretty much all of your photo's seem to be)
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>122058
I dunno I saw some pretty wicked stuff in your flickr. Your newer stuff is really impressing me.
Also WTF is up with the 91 comments on your Sunset pic... Other much better work is getting nothing (or just a bunch of retarted "YOU WIN THIS AWARD, PLEASE VISIT ME" posts)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/jcasalena/416665685/
This made me laugh

How is the 105 Micro treating you? I'm really pondering getting that in the future. Mostly because I despise tripods (so VR would be great) and don't have a Macro lens right now.
Don't really have a lens to sell to get it though... so heres hoping Tax return is good!
>> Anonymous
>>122096

Thanks :)

Having a name actually makes you more credible for me.

Most of the idiots that are anonymous are just that.

Also, my snapshots have gotten me accepted to college for photography.
>> Anonymous
>>122101

Hahaha, the cat picture. Thanks for the comments, obvious the cat one was somewhat of a joke.

I love the 105mm lens, im still getting used to the DOF on it which is insane at f2.8

I dont know how valuable my opinion on a lens is though as ive only had this D40x for 3 weeks, it's my first DSLR :)
>> Anonymous
>>122101

OP still here, as for the 100 comments on the sunset pic, that was back when I was quite the nooblet and getting comments on my pics brought me great enjoyment, so I submitted the pics to "rate me" groups.

I realize how stupid this is and how meaningless the comments are, haha. The sunset pic is actually one of my least favorites, and I did not include it in my college portfolio
>> Anonymous
>>122104
Please don't mention your portfolio. We don't need that shitstorm again, and you don't, either. I'm sure you remember it.

General critique on your photographs: well done, very pleasant to look at, well-composed, but in need of something to say.

>> lurk forever !Ep8pui8Vw2
>>122111
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>122111
A secure tripcode can be generated by placing two octothorpes in the [Name] field, as opposed to one as with a normal tripcode (ex. "User##password").
>> IdgotophotodotnetifIdidntwantanonymity !.CzKQna1OU
>>122111
I think it's in the name field

[Tripname] #[Tripcode]

Lemme see.

>>122113

So I just pick any user name and password?
>> Anonymous
>>122116
Yes. But stay anon. Tripcodes can be/are useful if you're posting a photograph and want people to be able to critique it in light of your past work, but otherwise they just lead to flamewars.

i think your pictures fall into the "trying too hard to be abstract" category. the orange one mightve been better if the reflection in the knife completed the orange, so it looked like you could see the orange through the knife. other than that, those arent pictures i would look twice at.
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
>>122072
