Huge manualfag here.

On an entry-level DSLR with no modifications to the viewfinder (focus screen, magnifier) yes, it is.

Damn I hate camera companies: add some stupid sensor-cleaning feature that doesn't do anything, but won't put two control dials, a bright, relatively high magnification full coverage finder on anything but their top pro bodies. (Props to Nikon for the D300, though.)

Bad sentence structure; the bit about "anything except their top pro bodies" wasn't meant to apply to the control dial thing.

but it's a good camera for the price!!!!

oh wait it costs as much as the 400d lulz

You know, I can totally see why Canon and Nikon don't put cheap-to-implement pro-level features in their cameras, but it seems like that would be a perfect way for the littler companies to differentiate themselves. I know that Pentax at least used to put dual wheels on its low-end models, though I don't know if they still do.

I guess they're all hoping to one day have a wide range of cameras like Canon and Nikon do and they want to be able to differentiate between 'em with things like that...

I understand the logic, too, but I think that competing against other companies ("Hey! All our shit has good viewfinders and ergonomics!") would outweigh differentiating between products.

I also hate how companies don't care at all anymore how shitty stuff they sell is as long as it sells. I mean, companies have always been in business to make money (obviously) but I hate how in the last half-century or so it's become an endless quest for more money, more size, more everything, at any cost.

OP here... is it actually going to Autofocus or do I need to become a manual focus expert

No, and don't bother trying, you can't
