Getting Started Anonymous
Hi, /p/
Kinda new to photography and /p/, though I've lurked 4chan for a few years, just wondering if /p/ has any pointers on starting off. I was thinking about getting a Kodak EasyShare Z812 IS to start of with. I'm interested in having a part time career with photography, but want to kind of test things out first.

I know a few basics about D-SLRs, composure, etc, the works. I just want to know if there's anything else I need to know and if there's a better camera to start off with that's in this price range (preferably cheaper). I don't want to go full-out and buy a D-SLR yet and find out I fail, so I'm starting with a D-SLR-Like. Any pointers?

TL;DR camera newfag needs halp

What do you mean by part time career?

for starting out i would reccomend something from the fujifilm finepix set. They are easy to use. Go for the S5700.

By "part time career" I mean something to make a little money on the side of my main job.

I was told that the FinePix S700/S5700 doesn't have IS. But it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the Z812. Is the whole IS thing true? (Oh plus the S700 hogs out 4 AAs while the Z812 and Z712 can use rechargable packs).

Please don't start out with a Kodak "pretend" camera... I used to sell tons of them to old grandmas just replacing their film cameras, but if you are anywhere close to serious, do yourself a favor and get a D50 on eBay for $350
