I have shot both film and didgital for years and there are more pros, especially for a beginner, when it comes to digital. From what iv experienced the learning curve with digital is much better and faster. Its easier to see the direct result of your actions and by that be able to learn from them. digital in the long run will save you money. people argue the print quality and tonal ranges but there there are some DSLRs out there that come damn close if not better than many 35mm film cams. if you ever intend to do it for a living or make money off of it then most people (hiring companies, weddings, most commercial ( though in many commercial studios they still use large format sheet film), are going to want digital because that is the way the market has gone and will continue to go. Film will, im pretty sure, be around for a long ass time if not forever but it will soon become very expensive. Eastman Kodak will soon be discontinuing 100% of its film production. many phototraphy "labs" no longer do film and or primarily use digital. pretty much if you arnt an arsty self righteous ass fuck then in the long run digital will be your best bet. even when concerning printing its not going to really matter unless your work is hanging if famous galleries all over the world and by then youd be able to afford the top of the line DSLR and it wouldnt be an issue. plus most of the photography you see now adays is digital, either scanned or DSLR so if the technology isnt there just yet it will be very soon.
