After my experience with the 50mm, I am really, really, lusting over this sweet piece of glass.

And there's a shop in my city which apparently sells it new/hardly used. Only con, the price.

What does /p/ think, it's silly to pay 2 grand in order to get those lenses in your collection?

I've borrowed one, it's a crazy-awesome piece of glass, but in no way worth the $2500 going price to me.

No, it's not. If you want a fast normal AF prime on a DX sensor, it's pretty much your only option, except for the Sigma 30/1.4 and 28/1.8, both of which you should look at. The Nikkor is a great, legendary lens, too. Huge, but the Sigma 28/1.8 is too, and the 30/1.4 is no small thing, either.

If you don't mind or prefer manual focusing, look into the AI/AI-S 28/2. You lose a stop, but it's much smaller, and is by all counts a great, underrated lens. Much cheaper, too.

if you don't mind losing the speed

a 14-24 is fine too (cheaper too)

Been a while since I checked prices on that particular lens, but the last one I saw for sale on Nikonians went in the $2500 ballpark.

I saw this table and I thought it might be handy for anyone else wondering what the differences were between the various series of Hoya models.

As you can see here the Hoya green filters are uncoated, which is why they suck.

thanks, i wouldnt know what id do if i didnt have this chart while i was shopping for hoya UV filters.

I was surprised that they even still sell uncoated filters any more. Pretty old fashioned and cheap. Even no-name brands can have single or multicoatings.

Remember that Hoya, Kenko and Tokina are the same too.

and whats that have to do with this thread?
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ

Nothing, but it's another piece of shit gear thread anyway, so I don't care.

We've got idiots talking about condoms in another thread. What has that to do with photography at all? I don't see you complaining there.

It's "ZOMFG LEGENDARY" for some reason or other.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>176791
It performs really well wide open, which is a rarity for a 28mm lens this fast. Of course 99.9% of people don't need it or don't give a shit, so

Besides what Serenar said, it's a really good lens. This picture I've attached was taken by David Alan Harvey with the 28/1.4 (on a D200)... just a great lens. I personally prefer the 28/2, but they're both good.

Second, it's slightly smaller than the Sigma. The Sigma focuses closer, which is why.
