I do not think any wrong is done in editing out a watermark from an image editing program offered as shareware; while the owners of the program are entitled to compensation, if an artist can't afford the program and needs it for his work, more harm is done by the artist not accomplishing his work than the loss of, what, twenty dollars to the programmer.
