Worst reaction everyone's gotten to taking a photograph of someone?

I'm not sure which of mine is worse. Once, I took a picture of this "gangsta" type riding past on a bicyle, and he yelled "Imma fucking kill you!" but kept riding. Never saw him again.

The other was today. The light was good at this T-shaped street corner, and the traffic was really light on the road that formed the lower part of the T, so I was standing there waiting for a shot. This Asian guy- Vietnamese, if I had to guess- came up on the sidewalk, crossing the sidestreet I was on. I brought my camera up to my eye, and waited until he was where I wanted him, which happened after all the below started. (No pic yet, have to process the raw file.)

He whipped out his cell phone, and held it up. At first I thought he was making some witty statement, taking a picture of me as I was taking a picture of him. Then I saw that he was holding it screen-out, and was just mystified. He yelled something that sounded vulgar in some language I didn't understand, and kept walking. I figured then that I was right the first time around, and he just didn't realize his phone was facing the wrong way.

About twenty or thiry minutes later, I was just sitting in a park, and this guy crossed through it, at least fifteen meters away from me. He saw me, whipped out his cameraphone again, and started yelling, "Hey! Fuck you! Fuck you! Fuck you!" at me, over and over again until I was out of his line of sight.

Pic unrelated, but I figure a box of Velvia 50 ought to get everyone's attention.

Worst reaction? I mainly take pictures of landscapes and architecture. They can't speak, so I guess it's free to interpretation. However, there was this one moment in which a person passed by while I was taking pictures and said, in a slightly elevated voice, "fukken Ghostbusters." This might seem non-sensical now. But you have to know that my buddies and I were all pimped out in Ghostbuster gear, proton packs and all strolling down 5th Avenue of Manhattan.

Nothing else really stands out right now.

"HEY! YEAH, YOU. DON'T FUCKING TAKE MY PICTURE WITHOUT ASKING. YOU ASK ME FIRST."
"Man, you're not even in the shot." (He wasn't.)
"YOU FUCKING ASK ME FIRST."
"Ok, jesus."
The weirdest part, is that was the old hippy looking dude with his really laid back looking wife at a popular youth hangout. If anyone would be ok with freedom of expression, I figured it would be the old hippy guy.
Owell, the shot probably wouldn't have been that great anyhow.

haha... truth be told I get pretty annoyed if I think someone is about to take my picture.

That being said, I do love to take pictures of other people.

I don't like taking pictures of people without their permission, but I really don't like the results I get when people pose.

I think I need to be more ballsy and stop worrying about how they'd react and just shoot.

Dude post the pics you took that got you yelled at!

I had some guys in a truck drive by, yell something nonsensical at me once, I was taken a pic of a farm and a barn, so not sure wtf they were doing.

Other than that most people just ask me if I work for the paper...

I usually just grab a wide angle lens and never point the lens directly at someone. Or take it when they're sleeping.

Pic related.

In Australia people tend to get really angry about having their picture taken. No idea why. Triple it if you happen to have any kids nearby

Good thing is, you can take photos of ANYONE in a public place and you're on the right side of the law. Even if they tell you not to, they can't stop you.

did it ever occur that he could be illegal, and feel threatened by you? just a thought.

a mall is private property but is public accessible. because its private property they have the right to refuse you the right to take photos.

No, it didn't, but walking through a public park a block from the police station yelling "Fuck you!" repeatedly for about a minute isn't exactly the behavior I'd expect from someone trying to avoid detection.

I don't begrudge him for it or anything; different cultural expectations, I guess. It's not like bad reactions are some rare thing, either. This one was just an odd case.

I've yet to have a bad reaction when photographing people in public.

However, my sister had a scary incident. We were on vacation in California and she wanted to take a picture of an In-And-Out Burger from the parking lot. She took the picture and it just so happened that there was a bum leaning against the wall. He saw the flash go off, and started yelling at my sister to "show him the fucking picture." He went over and I guess she got scared so she showed him the picture. The bum said "damn I look good" (the guy's face wasn't even visible since he was so far away). And then he started cursing again and demanding that we pay him money for being in the picture, so I grabbed my sister's arm and pulled her into the restaurant cause I was getting worried.

I get scowled at and stared at for just HAVING my camera on me as a result im to scared to actually take pictures of the general public here. This is with a big silver 100-300 too, this place (liverpool) scares me!

I'm always taking pictures at any sort of company event. My coworkers always think it's some huge victory when they get a picture of me, despite the fact that I don't really mind having my picture taken and have never claimed to...

The worst reaction I've gotten was in a little restaurant by the shore, I took a picture of a little girl and her father eating ice cream and some guy (not in any way connected with the girl and her father) started yelling at me that I should ask first if I didn't know the people.

The father? He didn't seem to mind that I'd taken their picture at all. It was just the random crazy guy. And I wasn't even being all stealthy and creepy about it, either--I had by big-ass, loud SLR out to get the picture rather than, say, my little pocket camera with the swivel screen that I could point and zoom and take the picture while appearing to just be fiddling with the LCD...

HA I know, but it was a "i'm still awake at 3am" thought i figured I would throw out there,.

Haha, yeah, I don't feel comfortable taking pictures of random people in Liverpool either. And I really want to avoid taking photos of buskers too, since a lot of the art students at college seem to have done that with the same people, like the accordion guy down Bold Street.

I took a picture in a shopping centre and a security came up to me and said "Oi, no pictures mate". I put it back in my pocket and that was that.

You know, there are people who believe taking a photograph of someone means stealing their soul or something like that. Maybe he was of this type.

A group of us were taking source pictures of a mall for an Unreal Tournament assault map we were making. Nothing fancy, just getting some structural elements like pilars, benches, wall textures, etc.

My friends were kicked out by security -- but we had all the images we needed.

Weeks after we finished the level, we went back and took photos just to piss them off -- we had done our research and found that they had no right to kick us out, only ask us to leave.
>> Anonymous
>>83649
actually a mall is privately owned, so they did have the right to kick you out.
>> eku !8cibvLQ11s
>>83652
I don't know in which country this happened, but at least in Finland the security can't legally do much else than to ask them (nicely) to leave. It would be against the law to deny photographing in a mall.
