If you are into photography, go for the DSLR. If you want something more casual, go for a canon point and shoot, because the canon's now have a hack that gives you 1. more control over how you take the picture, and 2. the ability to shoot in RAW. Shooting in RAW gives you an enormous amount of versatility in post processing, and is worth the hassle of having to edit your photos.
