Soft focus filters, I understand, are still best to screw on the lens, though the effect can be simulated (but not duplicated exactly) in PS. Opinions I've heard are divided as to whether or not graduated ND is best used on camera or simulated in PS.
2. Ansel Adams -explicitly stated- in one of his books that he would be "eager" to work with the "electronic image," which he was thinking about in the early 1980s before "DSLR" would be anything more than the way a Jamaican would specify a single lens reflex camera.
