Hey /p/.

Have a hell of a problem here. I have an EOS-3 that recently developed a random flashing "bc" fault.

The catalyst for this? Apparently my decision to purchase and then use a 24-105mm f/4L (IS) lens. Prior to that it was working just fine with my older, non-IS lenses.

Now before we get into the whole "go read post blah-blah-blah at photo.net", I've been through the following:
- New lithium-ion batteries in my grip.
- Original CR5 battery replaced.
- Contacts cleaned in grip, camera, and lens. (I am an avionics technician by trade, so I'd like to think I know _something_ about cleaning contacts.)
- E-mailed Canon. (Who rather "helpfully" told me to do the above.)

Now I have been able to induce the failure by running the camera in AI SERVO and alternating between focusing on two different points for between 15-45 seconds and then releasing the shutter. There seems to be some correlation (I am assuming relating to draw on the batteries by the AF in the lens) between time spent using both the AF and Image Stabilization features and the frequency of the bc fault. There seems to be about a 5-7% chance at 15 seconds and a better than 80% chance at 45 seconds.

So /p/.

What does a "bc" fault entail?

Basically, "Something went wrong with the camera". It's what Canon's film cameras use as a catch-all error message.

I assume you've tried just taking off the battery grip?

I think sending it in to Canon for repair is your only option with this camera. You've tried all of the easy things.

"Broken Camera" works :)

does it only give you the error with your new lens or with the old ones as well?

OP here. Thanks to everyone for the replies.

You're going to mock me, in this, my hour of desperate need? Oh what the hell am I thinking, this is 4chan.

And I see what you wrote there. And it will amuse me greatly when things are fixed.

Yes, I tried replacing the grip with the original battery holder. Same deal.

No, it didn't do this with my old lenses.

I've been in touch with Canon today. Apparently there may be something wrong with the internal bits of the camera that is causing this to go wrong. Looks like I'll be driving to Irvine to drop it off at the factory service center.

I'll be saging the thread since the question has been answered and I am sure there are better things for /p/ to be doing.
