what does /p/ think?

It's okay.

Canon A Series is better though unless being ultra compact is that much of a priority.

it is a priority. got a DSLR for everything else.

and what about the CHDK firmware?
talking about shutter speed, raw, bracketing ...

No aperture control worth speaking of, even with CHDK. I'd go for an A-series, unless you really, really need the thinness.

not even using the DHDK? that's bad. maybe i'll have to rethink. thanks.

Yep. Physically lacks an adjustable aperture. The aperture changes when you zoom, and you can apparently fake a smaller aperture with an ND filter built into the camera, but you can't actually change the size of the lens opening.

Is there even any reason to change aperture on a camera like this? It's already so fucking small that the DoF is nearly infinite.

You obviously do not know how to expose a picture properly.

Not really a problem when you have a shutter speed range of 60-1/40000s.

It is if you want to have a specific shutter speed.

This is where you use the built-in ND filter. Not a great replacement for a real diaphragm, of course, but most people don't need prolonging the exposure that often (plus you'll hit the diffraction limit pretty fast if you start actually narrowing the aperture in a lens like that)
