O HAI GUISE! NEWBIE GOODNESS HERE IN DIS TREAD Anonymous
Admittedly, it is not exactly the smartest thing I'll ever do but today I'm going to go and buy a K1000 from a seedy pawn shop. Here's your chance to reccomend lenses, good "begginner photos", film brands, pictures of my junk, and that I stop being an anachrofag and buy one of those new fangled digital cams.

If you don't plan on developing it yourself, and you still want to be an artfag and shoot B&W, get some Kodak BW 400CN. You can get it developed at minilabs basically anywhere.

Don't spend more than $75-100.

/p/ doesn't usually have any problem with 35mm slrs.

it's a decent camera. not a dumb thing to do, just don't pay too much for it.

I got a little ahead of myself when I was typing that first post out. I ment it was a bad idea because I got the advice to buy it from 4chan.

Also, it's about $135.00, but I think and hope I can talk them down because it's film and old.

Buy some cheap film to make sure everything works right and to break it in/get used to any quirks.

I'd suggest getting a better kit on ebay or craigslist for less.

I love my K1000. Try to determine if the meter works before you buy it.

$135 does seem a bit steep now that I think about it. Even haggling down to a reasonable $120 would be a bit of a rip. I'm not a poor bargainer, but I probably couldnt get them down to anywhere near $100 because I'm just not pretty enough, also a dude.

EXTREMELY NEWBIE QUESTION:
Do you need special lenses to take pictures at night?
>> Anonymous

yes.

they're called night lenses and come with little lights.

jesus fucking christ... does anyone use their head anymore?

don't spend more than $20. They sure as hell didn't.
I can guarantee you that it'll need work, light seals, at the least. Most pawn shops have a "No Refunds" policy for a reason.

Valid newbie question. Be a dick less.

Lenses with a larger maximum aperture (lower f/number) collect more light, which lets you shoot in lower light situations with a given shutter speed. E.g., an f/2.0 lens lets in twice as much light as an f/2.8 lens, which lets in twice as much light as an f/4.0 lens, which lets in twice as much light as an f/5.6 lens.

So, any lens can take pictures at night, but some lenses are better at it. An f/1.0 lens would be great for taking pictures at night. A crappy f/5.6 zoom, not so much.

I lol'd.

In fact I'd say it was one of the funnier posts on here today.

Not OP here but I have a question about night lenses. I have a 50mm 1.8 and I'm learning to shoot at night. If I don't have a tripod handy, is it acceptable to shoot wide open just to get an acceptable lens speed? Say, if I'm focusing at infinity?
>> Anonymous
>>151956
I believe focusing has to be precise if you're at f/1.8

Damn. Your logic was flawless. Seriously. I'm looking on ebay thanks to you.

With ISO 1600 film, shooting wide open at a 1/30, you should be able to get almost any scene at night. It's definitely do-able. That fast film can get awful grainy though, so be aware.
