Hey /p/

I'm sure you get this a lot, but I've been waiting to get a camera for years now and I'll probably get one this winter. I love photography and every chance I get I take up arms some great cameras and can take up to hundreds of pictures in a matter of a couple hours. I just get so absorbed looking through those beautiful lenses and how it captures time so beautifully.

I'm quite stupid when it comes to camera specs though, so I have absolutely no idea how to get a good camera for my price range. I can go up to around $1,000 and I would really appreciate if anyone could lend me some info on what camera's I should look into. I'd really appreciate it.

Pic semi-related, it's a picture I took of my nephew at an airshow a few weeks ago.

You do know that bodies deteriorate over time, right? I suggest a good entry level and a couple of good lenses since you can always use em when you move up.

Get a Canon 400D or 1000D or Nikon D80 (a really good body) with a Wide angle lens (focal length below 40mm) and a prime ( a lens with constant aperture) and you're all set. Now if you want to do some stalking, a telephoto 200mm up will get do you well.

what i'm wondering is what the hell are you doing on 4chan?

"I just get so absorbed looking through those beautiful lenses and how it captures time so beautifully." is so thoroughly anti-4chon that i'm left reeling.

entry level should be fine. you don't need a gazillion megaschnitzels and tons of functions you don't really use, $1000 can get you a nice entry level DSLR with 2 lenses and maybe a decent flash.

I'm guessing this is the Nikon D80 you're recommending

I'm a little confused on finding the Canon 400D. I'm linked to the XTi through google, unless that is the 400D.

Is the 400D better than the 1000D?

Sorry if I sound ignorant.

yeah, 400D is XTi, and I think the 1000D is just about the same as the 400D

Uh oh... 40mm is not so wide those cameras. I'd suggest something below 20mm. And prime is a lens with constant focal length, not aperture. Read and learn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_lens
