I'm putting together a printed portfolio of my work to try to keep the cash flowing come University again, And Rather than have 2 seperate books, one with Panoramics and one with 3:2 regular prints, I opted to put both pano's on top of each other, it actually works quite well with some of my shots.
Let me know what you think.
(I don't like using borders however I felt I needed to here, as I'm going to display them as is.)

I kind of like how this one works, Man-made and non manmade structures dominate the skies.
City and Rural settings.

Last one, I'm doing only scenics, and wildlife for this one, I figure i'll target mostly restraunts, cafe's, sit in type stores which need wall decorations. etc..

Shit man, they almost work as diptychs, lol. Good idea with the grouping of these.

One of the constants on /p/:
Vincent = delicious eye candy

>>212427
How are you selling them to the restaurants and cafes? If you're just selling them framed individual panos, then just put one panoramic on each page. If you're going to start doing diptychs then maybe present it like that.
>> Anonymous
I don't remember your tripcode/name, but I remember your shots, and I love them. Actually this set up seems to work beautifully with all of them except - for no reason I can think of - the two in>>212431. It just seems jarring, and like I said it could be entirely personal, my grasp of composition and how it's affected by juxtaposition is tenuous at best.

>>212427
awesome.
>>212428
i feel like this could be better.
>>212429
bottom picture, the location of the shot could have been better i think.
>>212431
top shot is my favorite out of these. did you do any post processing to said pic?
>> Anonymous
>>212427
what lens were you using for these pics? the sharpness is incredible!!
>> Anonymous
>>212434
fuck vincent, you are so damn marketable. good on you.

however, i think you're best off leaving some space between these. i think it is okay to put them together but when they're right against eachother like that, it is really frustrating to look at.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>212434
Selling them as singles, However in my 13 x 19" Portfolio book, they fit better, and waste no space if I do them like these, Its a compromise I don't mind doing because I already have a lot of these panoramics pre-framed, so I can take around a copy or 2 to give them an Idea.

>>212435
I agree with you, those just don't fit, However they are both Infrared and I felt these 2 shots were the best variety in my IR landscapes, so I put them together anyway.

>>212440
Actually for processing that one was pretty easy, Its an infrared pano shot at around 55mm, (longer than I normally shoot at). However all I really did was adjust the contrast and dodge and burn a bit of the ground to prevent blown whites or blacks
I wanted a lot of contrast between the blacks and whites, but without blowing all the detail.

Of these 10 shots, about 6 of them I consider my best work (in my top 10 anyway).
Thanks for the comments!

>>212447
Both the Sigma 10-20mm actually, Not a very sharp lens by default, However it was stopped down to about f8 and when you stitch 18 or so pics together even the softest lens can look great resized this small!

top is burrard street vancouver? or is that just some place that looks extremely similar?

Would you mind giving us a quick run down on the process of selling a portfolio?

How do you find buyers? What a re a few tips you would give?

When my shots get good enough I wouldn't mind being able to sell them too.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>212469
Yup exactly right, I was running around downtown trying to find a good vantage point before the sun got too low. I think this is one of the better places in vancouver to do such a high rise type shot. However I mean to go back and get some more city shots pretty soon here!

>>212471
Well I'm not soo much selling the portfolio as using it to try to drum up business. I sell prints, framed usually to places like golf courses and wineries (they have a lot of money floating around to buy stuff like this). So I used to just do up a print and frame it and take it on on a cold call, I was successful around 80% of the time. And that would net me about 200$ a sale.

Then I often get requests for reprints (usually just prints to give to clients who liked it, as it is advertising aswell for the company). Simply prints nets me huge profit, and I don't even have to do the work required to frame it.

However that is expensive and risky, as my 20% failure rate means I get excess inventory. So I just plan on taking in this binder with me, as a sort of advertising, and then taking requests from there, and hopefully I can get multiple sales at once.

They may want to use my work and simply offer a space for me to sell it (A lot of cafe's and restraunts do this), however that will be tricky as its uncertain income.

^^^^^^^ def the best in terms of 2 against each other, the nice contrast of green and snow from the same spot works really well.

also, agreed that unless your selling them from the book, keep them seperated further, or better yet completely seperate.

also, when your using such a wide lens doesnt it negate the need to stich shots due to the wide FOV? wouldnt you be better off using something between say 28-50(on crop) held in portrait?

hey vincent, any tips on doing an indoor panorama-esque shot?

>>212531
i would do nu such thing good sir!

prob also uses that many for the HDR effect
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>212522
hmm maybe I will cut them, I'll have to see how people react to them when they are together in the binder first.

Also 18 shots = 6x3 grid, You don't need to just have one layer to it. I shoot portrait style at 10mm a lot aswell, (when I don't stack the images vertically aswell) However I like the wide angle lenses as it gives a different feel to the pictures. Like you can look around the picture, not just at it.

>>212542
Indoor pano's its usually a good idea to use a longer focal length believe it or not, Really wide angles create hilarious distortions in the walls and any objects that are close to you. I don't find it works for much architecture.
Get as far away as you can and do a few layers vertically aswell. Then you are less likely to need a tripod aswell (though for indoors you probably won't have a choice, lighting could be bad aswell)

>>212547
First picture (Both Winery shots) is the only one i've actually done HDR editing on, it was 18 pictures x 3 (bracketed). Very painstaking process. I don't usually do it as it takes forever to edit, and I usually don't feel I need to.
>> TheGeneral !m7n7x2Yyfo
>>212555
I was thinking it would be better if I shot mainly vertical.hmmm let's see how this plays out.

as for the lighting I'm goin to be using strobes. It's a small room.

<3 these Vincent but you already know all the tripfags love you for these.

Im thinking of getting a pano of mine printed that isnt even a real pano (lol croping). Anyway, are you printing these with metalic ink or just on gloss?

No where round here does metalic afaik.
>> Anonymous
>>212555
yayaya i know you do the whole 3:1 thing, but physically how do you get it 3 shots high...
i mean with the FOV @ 10, or even 14mm your gonna have pretty much near the same FOV height as you would with most of your pano's anyway?
>> Anonymous
any tutorials on how to shoot panos?

All on metallic, Its my favorite paper by far!

>>212616
Most of my pano's are shot at 12-14mm, however there is still lots of extra height that can be gained from an extra layer. They become too thin without, as the warping at such wide angles creates a bubble like effect from your shots.
The City shot was at 10mm, 3 layers and it BARELY fit vertically. I just used the global correction (Sphere in PTGui)

Nice work, Vincent.

How do you do your printing/framing?
Do you do it yourself, or have it done at a shop?
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>212673

just overlap more, my bottom IR pic is taken with a 15mm fisheye.

>>212750
printing is through cameracanada.com, mpix = american equivalent.
framing i buy from a wholesale framer and put them together myself. 20x44" frames cost me around 70$ with a mat cut to 12x36.
>> Anonymous
>>212762
is mat a fancy word for the paper surrounds with the bevelled edge on it?

Yes it is
Mat, Matte, Matting. Not sure why everyone calls it something different.

>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL

Mounting is different, its merely gluing the picture onto another surface, you can get it Card mounted, plaque mounted or simply mount the picture onto foamcore.
