You forgot to lift your camera up to your eye when shooting.

No, this was on elevated stage, I was standing next to it.

Abstraction can be wonderful, but there still needs to be reason behind it.

The reason could very well be that there is no reason.

Which does work at times. Just look at Daido Moriyama. His work is brilliant, and at very least, it started out as having specifically no composition, no reason behind it other than being arbitrary. That said, I suspect that didn't last for long (the zero reason thing)

Nice try, Nietzsche.

0/10 for shitsux picture, 0/10 for not being able to accept critique, -2/10 for trying to seem deep and instead just being pithy.

If you want to create something without a reason, you still have a particular intent, at which point certain things will be better for expressing that intent than others. Do some research on symbolism, on empty signifiers and how the viewer can bring their own intent, and then argue this.
In other words, there's intent, there's a reason, so take the criticism. It's a picture of a band, don't make it more than it is.

Don't shoot outside at high noon. Worst lighting EVAR.

0/10 for thinking that's the OP. I'm the OP and I think someone doing something with no reason photographically is ridiculous.

I don't really think of this as an abstraction, though; I've got more conventional shots I'd use in a narrative presentation, but this was just trying to capture a mood, and I think it's the best one presented individually of this performance.

I'm fine with accepting crit, please do crit it in fact, but don't assume I'm an idiot who doesn't lift the camera to his eye or says things like>>211935. My only posts ITT are the OP,>>211920, and this one.

Strongly disagree. I love high noon lighting, straight-down shadows, harsh light that reduces things down to their basic shapes.

I love "golden light," too, don't get me wrong, but high noon is equally good IMO.

Plus, this is one shot from an noon-'til-almost-midnight local music festival. I've got shots from high noon to eleven o'clock at night. I shot all the acts at least a little, in all the different light situations.

If you can make midday light work well for you, awesome. Few people can.

At the price of losing texture and shadow detail? No sir, I don't like it. Looks like ass.

Fair enough. Let me revise that score to simply -2/10 to existentialfag.

Still, though, I'm not crazy about your image. I feel that it's very statically balanced, as it is nearly vertically symmetrical in terms of presence/absence of subjects. It looks like the bottom half of an image, rather than an image that celebrates negative space and the interplay of forms in the image plane.
Revised score: 3/10.

Thanks. I still like it, but I see where you're coming from.
