So I'm going to Paris on Monday for about a week and I was wondering what /p/ recommends as to places (perhaps less known) I should visit to take pictures of. Anywhere sorta close to Paris is fine, too as I suppose I can take a train or something. So yeah, I figure at least a few of you have been to Paris before.

pic related (not mine, but you bet your ass I'm going to be taking some cliche shots of the Eiffel Tower while I'm there)

Go to gloomy London instead, 3 hr train ride :D

Well, as for Paris, try to avoid the main tourist courses (d'oh). I was lucky enough that my girlfriend left me when I had a trip to Paris booked (lol), so I had the chance to stay there alone for a few days, met some locals, trained my crappy french and visited quite a few nice places.

If you can empathize with the locals, they may lead you to someplace nice, generally lesser known cafés, with an alive artist scene, and certain picturesque arrondissements which seem to have been lost in the past (and from the tourist guides as well!) - you might even get to feel the spirit from the parisienne that Doisneau and Cartier-Bresson captured in the past!

Pic unrelated because I didn't have a camera back then :[

just be shure to take a good look at your watch.

they DO turn off the eiffel tower at night... (0100 am, i think)

i fell over laughing, when a friend took a good measure, adjusted his lense, looked again and the tower turned dark before he got a good shot...

I'm actually going to London first in the morning, spending the day there and taking the train to Paris at night. Oh, and I'm going with my parents and sister on one of those family trip things, so I'm hoping I can find some people to hang out with because I sure as hell ain't looking forward to actually spend the whole time with my folks and sister...

But the thing is, I only know about 5 words in French. Meh.

The French, a bunch of useless cheese-eating surrender monkeys. Fuck their culture.

Heathen! Nothing like sipping some Port while tasting a fine camembert.

Port is not really French is it?

woo, i'm in paris at the mo
you've got all the shit obvious ones
louvre, arc du triomphe (sp?), etc blah blah

but my best advice, *here comes a highly hippy esque quote
"dont go looking for photos, let the photos find you"

everyone has seen the major sights a million and one times
