Lomofag here.

Anyone tried out the Holga 135BC yet? Or the standard Holga 135 or Holga 135PC?

Just purchased one for $20ish, haven't gotten a chance to play around with it yet. The idea of a non-medium format Holga intrigued me.

While on a pseudo-lomography related note, does anyone have any experience with the Russian produced Zenit 122K SLR? I'm kind of interested in them but haven't found many reviews or pictures taken by them.

Picture related, it's a Holga 135BC.

Isn't the whole point of the Holga that it's a cheap medium format camera?

Apparently now it's also a cheap 135 camera.

I've never used the Zenit 122K, but I do have a Zenit-E sitting around at home. It is basically an ugly knockoff of the early Pentax SLRs but with an uncoupled selenium meter instead of the nice coupled CdS one.

That was the intended point but most people buy them because of the way pictures usually come out on them. There have been modifications around to run 35mm through a Holga for a while now and they ended up releasing a few different 35mm versions.

Medium format is fun to me but a lot less casual which is what I turn to lomographic photography for.

Currently shooting around with a dedicated fisheye camera. Picture related.

No, it's to make photographs where all the technical qualities are shit, and using an even smaller negative works towards that. At least now it is. They were probably *designed* as cheap medium format cameras, but that's not what people use them for in the modern world. You'll get better quality from a used 135 $50 point and shoot that's actually light-tight and has a glass lens.

You would get better quality with a 50 dollar PnS. But as you indicated, that's not the point. When Lomo sells a special edition holga that comes with a red-and-clear candy-striped filter, I think it should be obvious what the market is.

Now, I have seen some really lovely Holga shots. However, those are usually well-framed with thoughts as to the vignetting, subjects selected so that they don't need to be in focus, and the film is usually cross-processed to give them some kind of otherworldly appeal. Your average Holga user basically uses it either cause (a) it's a fad, (b) they think the "distressed" soft blurry leaky image is arty, or (c) both.

I respect what the Holgas can do in the hands of a real artist, but frankly I have no love for 99% of the Holga shots out there. Fucking fads.

My position as well.
