It's better, but eh..
Holga thread?
>> Anonymous
>>242469
I say we sage this thread from the orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

By the way, is there a one-click Holga plugin for Photoshop? It might be relevant to my intarestz.

so the point of holgas is to be inferior?
>> Anonymous
>>242541
The point of Holgas is to be special, like in "special education."
>> Anonymous
>>242551

actually i believe the poit of holgas was to be a low cost, cheap, almost disposable 120 format camera for the chinese masses.

Then the trendy hipster fags of 'western' civilization found them and now they're all about being 'avant garde' and 'artistic' and all that other nonsense. It didn't start with the camera though, before the hipsters had Holgas they had Dianas, and before that some other crap camera, etc.

not that you can't get some good shots out of holgas in spite of their short comings. They're to film as the recent wave of HDR is to digital. Most things done with it are shit. thread on here is a perfect example.

I don't know. on the one hand, lomographic society pisses me off sometimes, but really, the fools that drink the kool-aid piss me off even more.

only an idiot would buy a FED 2 for 140 dollars + shipping. they're only like 1/3 the price on ebay, after all. Or a Kiev 4 for 170+shipping. or a fucking lubitel for 215 (are you fucking kidding me!?). A seagull for 300. three fucking hundred. a zorki is almost 200 dollars. you get the idea. these asshats probably buy up the cameras cheap on ebay and flip them with their 'this item has been professionally refurbished' disclaimer. of course, the company isn't so bad, like i said. it's the idiots that buy this shit. if nobody bought it, they'd quietly go away and stop being a cancer.

OH GOD HERE COMES THE LOMO RAGE

Boring toilet is boring. The holga doesn't help.

>>242461
I kinda like this one. Puts me in mind of a cool, crisp autumn day.

Also, Fuck the Lomographic society.
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m
My name is Lynx and I am guilty of buying Lomo cameras from the Lomographic society.
I was young and stupid!!

They're what got me interested in photography, and here I am, thousands of dollars later.
>> Anonymous
if you want to experiment with lo-fi, get your cameras off of ebay or thrift stores or yard sales or some shit.

STAY AWAY FROM LOMOGRAPHIC SOCIETY.
>> else !L6xabslN96
i still dont understand...

wtf is this shit?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>243098
Which shit?
>> Anonymous
>>243033
With the fucking insane shipping costs that come off of ebay, lomo almost comes out to the same price anyway.
>> Anonymous
>>243287

DON'T BUY LOMO BRAND YOU FUCKING IDIOT.
There are similar cameras that are better. Lomo just has trendfags interested and the price is jacked up.
>> Anonymous
>>243293
>the price is jacked up.

Again, so does ebay. Whether that's *because* of lomo I don't know, though.
>> Anonymous
>>243293
holga is superior
>> Anonymous
nice pic, i expect much better vignetting from a holga though.
>> Anonymous
>>243293
Not to split hairs, but the price of EVERYTHING is ultimately jacked up. From a purely anecdotal standpoint, my dad - for reasons that still mystify me - recently bought a 150 dollar water bottle holder for his bike:
http://www.bellatisport.com/shop/category/62/product/161/Campagnolo_Record_Water-bottle_holder.html

It does absolutely nothing that a 5-dollar water bottle holder can't do. Frankly I have much more rage for that kind of price-jacking than for a 50-dollar plastic camera in an industry where prices easily enter triple/quadruple digits.

WRONG. on ebay, you can get a working, say, Zorki or Fed rangefinder camera setup in working condition with a lens for 50, 60 dollars max. INCLUDING SHIPPING. from lomo? at least 200 bucks, before shipping.

Yeah, uh, wait, no. fuck lomo society.

>>243518
I stand corrected. I've been using the Diana as a litmus test for comparing ebay with lomo since I'm somewhat familiar with the camera. Even for vintage Diana/clones there are bids and Buy Me Nows anywhere from $30-$60. Tack on the aforementioned ridiculous shipping costs and ultimately the prices are comparable, sometimes even in lomo's favour. Looking at Fed auctions though... yeah, that's fucking ridiculous.

Speaking of which, are any of these Russian Leica-esques worth a pickup? At the auction prices, of course.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>243543
well they work, but they're nowhere near them in quality obviously. really dim patches and usually kind of stiff feeling, a lot of the Russian lenses can be very usable if you get a good copy though.
>> Anonymous
>>243559
I'm okay with niggling quirks in terms of the photos they make, if that's what you mean - I'm gay for Dada-like elements of chance, what can I say?

What do you mean by a 'stiff' feeling, though?
>> Anonymous
>>243561
>What do you mean by a 'stiff' feeling, though?
Well you know when you see a really pretty girl walking by and like a stray gust of wind catches her skirt and blows it up just a little bit, just enough to give you a tantalizing glimpse of what's under there?

Nothing like that.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>243561
Like the models with level winders, instead of having a smooth and light pull like Leicas, Voigtlanders, and any nicer camera, it's stiff and feels like it's grinding. They're really finnicky with the shutter speed selection too.

but they're not bad cameras, they just had no quality control so you end up with some to almost leica standards, and then others with worse quality than a holga.

>>243563
My mind is desperately attempting to translate that analogy into photographic terms

>>243564
Theeeeeere we go, thanks for that.

I'll think about picking one up after I finalize my move and get my new address sorted out. At best I get a pretty sweet, unusual camera, at worst I get a cool piece of Soviet technology to add to my collection of old cameras (not as cool as my Brownie Autographic, but w/e)

taken with a holga and ringflash.
i think there was a piece of paper knocking around in the camera, you can see it top left corner.
Apart from that I quite liek it.
>> Anonymous
>>243568

if you want cool, you should check out the soviet hasselblad copy. kiev 88 i think its called. i've read that when you get a good one, it's almost as good as a hassy 500. at a fraction of the price.
