Let's talk batteries /p/.

If there's any other Pentax K100d users out there I'd like to hear your experiences, because mine seems to be eating up batteries.

Currently using Duracell 2650mah with a Duracell charger (It can charge 8 at a time, but takes 7 hours). However if I leave them out of that for say, an hour, they'll show up as depleted on the camera.

I've already got 12 Duracell rechargables, so I don't really want to switch brands now, anyone had experience with their other chargers?

Also, pic is mine, but unrelated.

They're the green and black NiMH rechargeables? Just get a new charger that supports NiMH batts, it doesn't have to be a duracell.

is there a reason you dont want to switch brands? also, about how many times have you charged the batteries? and what type are they exactly? and how far do you take the batteries down before you charfe them?

I used to think that any camera that doesn't use AA's was going to be a pain in the ass. But after Buying a D50 and being "Forced" to use their Li-ion batteries, I realized that it can actually be a benefit.

For one it takes 2 hours to charge, and second, even with heavy Image review use, I average around 1200 shots per charge.. Not bad considering its just bigger than having 2 AA's.

Also to OP, Maha chargers are amazing, And to add to that the inefficiency of using an 8 hr charger vs say a 30 minute one isn't much considering you can just carry a few extra batteries anyway (since they are quite cheap)

I've been living off of some Nimh 2300's for a while in my Flash, They take forever to charge aswell, but they last long enough, Even with the typical drain they get for sitting around not in use seems to be much less than yours. Do you have any way of testing their charge other than your battery charger or camera? would be interesting to see how they drain...

I use a 4-set of Duracell rechargable AA's (green and black, like yours I assume) and a set of these green and blue ones from BestBuy, they're called Dynex, that came with a 15 minute charger (charges 4 at a time) Only time I had the batteries run out in such a short time space was the very first time with those dynex ones, which I assume was a fluke, since they've lasted plenty long since then. I usually go out for 3 hours or so when I shoot. However, I'm used to shooting film, so I don't take a terribly large amount of pictures. Maybe 30 or 40 per outing. Depends on how many places I go. Also, after they charge, I just leave them in my camera bag, for when I need to replace them.

i got a bc-900 charger from lacrosse tech, its pretty awesome as far as portable chargers go... not as fast as those 1 hour chargers but it has way more features

can set independent voltage and rate for each terminal and it has a refresh cycle that gets the max out of the battery cell

i've seen some sanyo 2500mah cells that actually hold around 2750 after a refresh cycle on the bc900

I've also got this charger, its absolutely brilliant.
I use it to charge my 4x 2500mAh Powertech batteries for my SB600 and my 8x 2500mAh Energizer batteries for my F5

Didn't want to switch because I didn't know;

>>77702

That. Which is good, I guess I read too much into the "Don't use other brands on our batteries" thing.

Yep, green and black NiMH rechargeables, that refresh cycle on the bc900 sounds interesting, might look into that...

I don't know of another (efficient) way of testing the charge, I could really do with some kind of individual tester.

bc900 has a charge mode, discharge mode, test mode and refresh mode for each individual terminal. it shows the full capacity of the battery on the lcd screen.

Guess that swung it for me. Cheers!

I like my Eneloops. OK so only 2000mAh but they hold their charge for ages if you keep them in a cool dry place.

Eneloops are nice. I've been using Rayovac Hybrids for a while longer than Eneloops. They are similar, as Rayovac Hybrids also hold a charge for much longer than typical NiMHs. They are only 2100 mAh, but I've pretty much switched completely over to Hybrids, with some Eneloop sets mixed in.
