sup /p/

what mode do you shoot in when you take pictures of bands like the picture attached?

Manual, Shutter or Aperture Priority?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
Manual. Camera's not smart enough to meter properly in lighting like that.
>> sunshine
Same, manual, especially if I've got strobes set up.
>> Anonymous
what lens would you recommend?
i currently use my 18-55mm and sometimes my 50mm

it kinda sucks since my 50mm is f/1.4 but i have to back away so far D: so ive been on the hunt for a lens to take its place without going back to my 18-55mm
>> sunshine
I usually just take my oldschool 28mm f/1.4D that takes care of things, and of course my nifty fifty for facial shots. Usually those accomplish what I need.

Horrible flash is horrible.

I either use full manual, or Av. Sometimes Av is really usable, if you just figure out how it meters wrong.

bandname?

that chode mangler in OP pic is almost completely covering the microphone with his hand. more than anything it looks as though he's chewing on his thumb while attempting a river dance. this band is to music what lomographer's society is to photography.
>> Anonymous
Not OP, but anyway is an Ilford 3200 film fast enough to shoot without flash in such circumstances as OP's photo?
>> Anonymous
Use the 50mm and a monopod.

Set the camera to Av mode, at f/2.0, and ISO 800.

Alternately, set the camera to Tv mode, at 1/125, and ISO 800.

Prefocus on where the singer's mic stand is, and when the lighting is good, burst mode shoot. Do this a few times, then repeat the process for each band member.

Doing anything else is overthunking the job.

Manual

And to get them like that
You'll definately need a flash.
Fuck having high ISO when you can blast the scene with light.
Also, was a slowish shutter speed. My guess would be a 5th.

I do some stuff like this, usually go with aperture priority and sometimes go manual with like half a second shutter when I want those dragged out "afterlights".

Whoever brings a monopod to a gig like this is doing it wrong. be serious. You clearly have never done anything live..

Either bring a steadycam or stay at @home

I've never seen a photog bring a monopod to a concert, especially one of these club gigs. Maybe if you were the "back of the house" photog in an arena or concert hall, but a club gig? photog, please.

also, flash is excessive, unless you like blinding the band.>>29621950mm and a monopod? with a shutter speed that fast... wut?

>>296215
3200 should to more than enough, 1600 oughta be enough, unless you're shooting in very poor light (or a really dark lens), in which case the gig may have other problems.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA

>I've never seen a photog bring a monopod to a concert
Because if you've never noticed someone doing it, there's no chance that it could be a good idea, amirite?
>> eku !8cibvLQ11s
>>296468

I haven't either seen anyone bringing monopod toa a gig. And I've noticed photogs at gigs. And most places I've been, I can't even imagine how one would use monopod in a place like that.

But hey, I haven't seen people eat shit... Oh wait, I've seen. Well, anyway, I had a point!
>> Anonymous
>>296468

not>>296415but uhh if some shit never happens, there's a good chance it's either a bad idea to do or it's just stupid
>> Anonymous
I've seen monopods when the photographer is on stage with the band taking official photos.

I've also seen this:

eku is the one who shoots the concert photo thread last week right?
his photos are damn awesome, thus his argument kills all.
DONT USE MONOPOD OR ELSE EAT SHIT
