What's going on here? I've been curious. I know it's something about my lens, an old Quantaray 70-210mm f/4-5.6 manual focus.

To me, anyway, the highlights look a little blown.

I noticed that you used center-weighted average for the metering; what exactly were you going for in this shot?

Clean your lens.

Actually, I can't meter at all using this lens, heh. It's all guesswork and adjustment. I can't complain though, for being all of $36. I'm pleased with the shot, just confused about the effect within it. I was trying to go for the sunflower as a *sun*flower, almost as if it was on fire. It was intentionally blown out in those few areas.

And the lens is clean, I'm very meticulous about that, not to mention this was taken right after I got back from the store.

Here's another example of this neon edge glow this lens seems to get.

It looks like you've got a softening filter to it. I honestly kinda like the effect

some lenses just aren't good with dslrs. Either there's weird internal relfections or funky aberration or foo. If there isn't anything else wrong with exposure or shit on the lens, I'd wager that's what it is.

I see, so kinda like the Canon 135 lens which intentionally softfocuses on purpose to get that kind of effect. Didn't know the Quantaray 70-210 could do that (certainly, you got a great lens for just $36)

I think I can kind of imagine the effect you want, like the god-kitty halo effect?
