Command Dials sv !!vC9KZM3Ch/H
As a nikonfag, I've always found the layout of Canon command dials to be really strange, especially the Canons that have one command dial (weirdness for Canon one command dial confirmed today because a friend is letting me borrow a Canon film body he doesn't use much anymore).

I'm just wondering if the canonfags think the same thing about Nikon?

Well, of course nikon feels strange, because im used to canon. But both I think both are equally intelligently made. One command dial worked totally fine for me. Now im using a 5D and 40D, and I think theyre both great.

in b4 nikon vs. canon bs.

Ya the worst part isn't the command dial / wheel. for me its always the 3 top buttons that feel soo out of place (ISO and whatever the other 2 are)

Also the top command dial on bodies like the 5D feels akward to use because you have to take your finger off of the shutter release to adjust it.

and btw, the only reason I chose canon is that my dad had some canon lenses when I first started. I never really compared. Although I absolutely love the D300. A Canikon 5D300 would be awesome.

I'm used to Canon so the Nikons feel weird to me. It's that you grow accustomed to whatever you use most.

What actually fucked with my head the most is that Nikon lenses unscrew backwards.

I haven't actually played with a recent enough Nikon that it had control wheels, so I can't answer your actual question.

Yeah, both my Pentax and Canon twist a different way. Guess the Nikon is the oddball.

as a canon fag I do agree with you. With canons it just seems like you have to do a few more steps to get the settings set were as with nikon seems to make more sense and be more intuitive. Just for example lets compare something that should be simple, like turning on the live view mode on the 40d compared to the the D300. On the canon you have to go into the menu scroll around to several different places, with not only one but TWO methods, you can use the wheel and set button OR the little joystick. Once you select live view and turn it on it still wont turn on right away.. you have to exit the menu and then press the set button. On the Nikon you just turn it on with the dial on the top left on the camera, no menus, no bull shit. Nikon button layout is better. Canon still has the "Print" button, does anybody use this?... I am used to canon, but I might make the switch, but not decided yet.

Theres almost no reason to switch when you already have glass for one body. The D300 as fantastic as it is now, will be eclipsed by Canon (And subsequently Nikon) in two (maybe three) years.

If you don't have much in the way of lenses, well then thats a different story.

true fact. there are only two types of photographers in the world: nikonfags and canonfags who have yet to shoot nikon.

actually, there's a theoretical third type that exist in the same microscopic timescale as the last 10 elements on the periodic table.

they're canonfags who, while holding a nikon, wonder what the hell they've been doing for the last few years.

Yeah, i'll second that. The only reason why i didn't move to the 5D was that it made no economic sense, the amount of money i would lose due to depreciation on my nikon gear coupled with the hit i'd take with buying new Canon made it pointless.

Well played, my friend.

I don't know that I'd agree with that. Ergonomics is one of, if not the most important feature to look for in a camera. It might not make sense to upgrade bodies or switch systems to get a few more megapixels or better high-ISO performance, but it definitely does to get a body that's better to use.
