I need a decent flash for my 400d, and I've been looking at the 430EX speedlite. Is this an okay flash? I'm kind of on a budget, and the 430EX is about as much as I can spend. Are there any better deals out there, or other opinions on this particular flash?

Smaller and lighter than the 580 but still provides adequate light for most situations. Longer recycle time as I recall than the 580 and cannot master other flashes like the 580, but if you're using it as a fill light when hiking I'd take it over the 580 because of weight and size.

What are you intending on using it for?

i have the 580 because it makes up for the loss of power when used with diffusers

i have the 430 and it suits my needs for a simple fill.. but the 530 really isn't much more (~$100)..

get the 530 if you have the extra cash.. then if you grab any other flashes in the future you can use 'em as slaves.

Get the 430, when/if you outgrow it and need more flash get the 580 and use the 430 as a slave.

No, and you can't afford the 580EX, so get the 430EX and don't come back until you have taken at least five photos of the city that you live in while using your 430.

There are 2 versions of the 430EX BTW.
