tried my hand at making my own diy ring flash. small bowl attached to a tube inside a bigger bowl, covered in tin foil and an attachment for a speedlight on the bottom.

I'm somewhat pleased with the results I got. especially considering it cost me >$10 to make.

Thats actually pretty awesome. Could you try to describe alittle better how you made it?

Why would he be blind? If anything, that would make him less blind than just the flash alone.
>> Anonymous
you didn't need a ring flash for these pictures

i'm not quite sure how light works but i'm blind even on 1/16 or /32 when i test my DIY ring flash on myself

Uh yeah, actually. Note the reflection in the eyes.

Kinda hard to do that without a ring flash, yaknowhatimean?
>> Anonymous
>>150673

yeah... so the only redeeming quality you can find is the catchlight?

lulz

That's part of the appeal of ringflashes for portraits, but I digress...

The lighting in general is more in tune with a ringflash.

again, you didn't need a ring flash for this kind of shot

Oh, for the actual pictures you mean?

Well...I'd assume OP only took those to demonstrate that the ringflash actually works. They're examples not real work.

How fucking stupid are you? Seriously, how is it even possible? Geez. What he ^ said.

>>150688I'd assume OP only took those to demonstrate that the ringflash actually works.

then take a picture where it's actually warranted

tried making another one today, learning from mistakes. This one is bigger, I got some reflective duct tape instead of tin foil, a shorter speedlight attachment in case I need to change the angle for some reason. Overall it's more solid and sturdy.

Shot this with it. The only problem I have right now is the circa 1976 flash that I use with it is not powerful enough to shoot from more than 3 feet away so I don't use it a lot.

these things aren't meant to be used very far....
>> Anonymous

Obviously, but they should be able to be used 6-8 feet away so you can do longer focal length portraits for less distortion.
