I bought UV filters at Ritz and gotta free CPL filter by Tristar Optics so I put it to the test. I noticed that when it was turned a certain way the clouds even took on a green tint to them. Anybody know why? Oh and it turned out to work pretty well, in my opinion.

inb4 Targus $10 CPL filter from WalMart.

That's some extreme vignetting you've got there. But at least the CPL had an effect.
>> Anonymous
Oh, and by the way, I didn't do any post-processing on these. They're basically treated the same exact way. Oh, and notice how well it cuts through the haze too!

lol, actually that's what happens when you have a UV filter and free-rotating CPL filter mounted to a 14mm lens. It seems to shift slightly between images, but I think that might be a change in focus. I dunno for sure, still trying to puzzle it out.

wtf is up with these threads?

CPL usually do their jobs. Whoopdedo. No need to make a thread about it.
Jesus. Where becoming like /b/.

Oh wait...
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
Wait, why were you testing a CPL there when you could have clearly been concentrating on taking real pictures? It's a beautiful location, that spot in the trees across the water where the clouds broke really keeps drawing my eye in, and I want to see more of it.

And you're not providing it.

:(

Of course I was taking photos too. I just slapped on the CPL to try it out and viola, it worked fine and the photo came out better. What, you don't like my photo?

This is now a photo thread. Pic's of the Kinzua Dam Reservoir up at Kane, PA and the surrounding area.

The overexposed sky kind of ruined this one. The framing seems a little awkward on the left side because of the plant, but that's okay. I really like the path going off towards the right and I keep looking at the bent tree down that path.

If you could have brought down the exposure a bit and kept the sky from going all white and obscuring the tree tops then I think this would have been a lot better.

Blown sky is blown. I wasn't really spending a lot of time focusing on photography and realized once I got back up to camp that I was shooting in a compressed jpg mode instead of RAW. :(

and that's why my camera never leaves raw. I know the one time I forget to change it back will be the one time I forget to check.

The Kinzua bridge was the world's highest bridge when it was built. I used to always head up to Kane, PA with my dad ever since I was 5yrs old and now a tornado tore through and wrecked the thing about 4 years ago. I was going to jump the fence and head down to check out the wreckage but a storm was coming and I didn't feel like getting caught out there (maybe some other time this summer when I get the adapter for my old Minolta MD lenses). Again, I snapped a few shots and moved on. Guess I'm just outta practice. You should see the other side of the bridge where the wind hit, entire hillside is just grass and fallen trees. Maybe I have a shot...

You can see the fallen bridge better on the left and the huge gouge made into the hillside on the right.

maybe for the first 3 pictures, after that when it starts to slow down Raw gets far slower

Oh. My. God.

I really, really, really like decaying remains of elaborately engineered artifacts, and that stupid fence would not have prevented me from taking a closer look.

Thank God I live no where near there, because there is a good chance that my decaying remains would be in a broken heap below (I'm kind of clumsy).

Anyway, very nice pics, OP. My one complaint is the sky in the first two is a bit overexposed, the sky in
>>208729
is a little, but it doesn't hurt it, but the sky in
>>208729
is and it does hurt it. You mentioned the blown one, which has that nice green - dark green tree-circle that really draws the eye in, shame the sky is blown.
Anyway, good stuff.

Yeah, trust me I had already walked a good ways below the bridge past another fence with big warning signs before it started getting ready to pour. It's a shame, I really wanted to get a shot of those huge 300ft steel pillars along with the storm-ravaged hillside. Sounds like you could get some great shots with a desolate atmosphere, you know?

As you can tell, we had shitty weather this trip, but my pops has got plenty of vacation time this summer so I'll probably go back with some sharp-as-awesome Minolta lenses. Unfortunately the widest of those good lenses I'll have is a 35mm f2 which will end up being a 70mm on my Olympus. But then again, I'll also have an old x-700. Meh, whatever. Even the shitty kit lens will work. Point is I'll be able to get down there next time if the weather's better and get some great shots.
