hey /p/, i got a rebel xti 400d for my wife a while back, but she never uses it. now im gonna, but i want to take some macros. what lens would be best?? what would be best for the price?

Try using the kit lens to start out with. It's actually got a surprisingly good minimum focusing distance. Don't buy a dedicated macro lens until you're sure this isn't just a passing whimsy.

so the j10 does pretty well for such an inexpensive portable camera, and the canon's kit lens does pretty well, but im still looking for something more. ever since i got my j10 ive loved taking nature pictures. unfortunately, my youngest son is the best macro ive got with it.

lens suggestions?

The canon 60mm macro is very nice and not too expensive, but you will have to get real close to your subject, which could be a problem for insects etc.

Some third party telezooms like the sigma 70-300 APO have a 'macro' setting that let's them focus closer, but it's not true (1:1) macro.

Another option is extension tubes, not very expensive, go between your body and lens, you lose some light and image quality because you're using a smaller part of the image your lens projects. Results depend on the lens used, natch.

If you really want to slum it you can make your own ghetto macro by using lenses backwards, do some googling if you're interested.

Also, I don't know where the fuck that apostrophe in let's came from. My brain must've stopped working for a second.
