Hey /p/,
I'm a student and I'm starting a variety of courses at my local college.
One of the courses include Photography.
Now, today I blew £120 ($224) on a fully manual Vivitar V3000 35mm SLR camera, which I needed to start my course at college.
We are able to use dark rooms and all that stuff.
But seeing as the only camera I'm actually used to holding is either the one built into my mobile, or a Samsung S85 digital camera.
Now I've played around, holding my new V3000, and also read through the instruction manual countless times.
And I was just wondering /p/ if you could give me a few pointers with my new SLR and if it was really worth the money?
All which will be much appriciated, thanks!

Also, pic related, it's the new camera.

Sorry, you got totally raped paying for that camera. If you had gone used, you could've paid half the price for twice the camera. The good news is that it's just fine for your course.

First pointer is to get past playing with your camera while it's empty and load it up and just start shooting. You won't notice many little things about your camera until you start using it, like how you can carry it most comfortably, or how to smoothly load a roll, or how to peep into the viewfinder to get in most of the picture and your meter readout (fuck glasses ;_;)

imo you could've bought much better used manual cameras such as Minolta X700, X570, Nikon FM etc on ebay for the same amount of money. Vivitar V3000 is a Chinese made camera that takes Pentax K lenses. I've heard that Chinese made cameras such as Seagull and Vivitar have very weak and unreliable shutters.
Return the camera and check out ebay. Buy yourself a Minolta X570 or 700.

Definitely got raped. If you can return it or sell it on for the same price I would recommend it. You can get some very good all manual cameras for that price, though if you can't, this will also do. It's not a bad camera, and pentax lenses can be had for cheap.

As crap as they are, aren't Vivitar cameras made in Japan by Cosina?
