is the 30d worth it? Im not looking to go crazy on the cost but still looking for a pretty damn good DSLR

Consider the XT; now that the XTi is out, XT prices have dropped significantly. XT's got the same image quality and same image processor as the 30D, and almost as good an autofocus system. The only difference things the 30D has on the XT is spot metering, RGB histogram as opposed to single-value histogram, an additional control wheel, and slightly fasster speeds (3fps vs. 5fps max). If you don't know what these are, chances are you won't miss them, and the XT and better lenses would be much better bang for the buck.

Bodies come and go, lenses last.

I'm not a canon expert, but Canon seems to be pushing the full frame sensors lately, So Personally if you want a good DSLR, plan for either the 5D (3000$ unfortunately) Or at least only buy lenses for whatever you do get that are meant for full frame / film camera's.

Is that good for night sky photography?

You're forgetting the bigger body.

You're right about that, but I consider it more of a difference rather than an advantage. Maybe I've just got smaller hands, but I find the XT with an EF28/2.8 makes a nice, compact, unobtrusive street shooter. It all comes down to what's comfortable in one's hands, I suppose.

great input, thanks alot :D Not to mention its easily 500 dollars cheaper, which means more to invest in a good lense

smaller will help me out a bit. I used to shoot with a 20d for quite some time (that also had the battery grip thing) and after a day of using that my hand would be awfully carpal tunnely..?

Worked with a few people who let me shoot a bit with both the 5d and the 30d and while i adore the 5d, the price tag was a smack in the face. So im going to look around a bit more but the XTi is looking quite nice.

on se ihan jees olla olemassa, ko. toimenpide pitää kuitenkin jossain vaiheessa tehdä kuville kun pitkillä valotusajoilla kuvataan (vähennetään dark frame tai mikä olikaan alkuperäisestä kuvasta)

short in english: yes

yea just got back from the store, just to actually feel the cameras before taking the jump. The XTi felt way too plastic'y. Felt like id break it by holding it wrong. The 30d was alot more solid.

Though I got to play with the 5d and the Nikon D200 and I do have to say I adore the feel of the d200. Worth the money but not certain if i would take that leap.

d80 = d200 in a slightly smaller shell. (basically)
In fact noise is much better on the d80, but theres some disadvntages too

so now d80 as compared to the d30?

I was liking the feel of the nikons over the canon

from what I keep seeing, I should just stick with the d30. Thanks everyone :D
