Polarizers... Anonymous
I've been looking some pictures here and there... and mostly, my pictures lack the MASSIVE saturation/contrast people often use in "professional" shots.
And I started wondering about filters. uv's, polarizers etc. I've seen the effects of polarizers in landscape shots. but I have a rebel XTi (400D), kit lens (18-55mm) and a 50mm f/1.8... I wonder if a polarizer would help me overall in portraits and other kinds of shots with my 50mm... I lurked on flickr but no good examples here shown... google has only landscape comparisions of filters...
the main question: how filters help you out /p/? relying only in post processing must be a problem... I guess...

...russia? sorry, couldn't resist.

I don't have any examples, but I've heard that polarizers can be useful in portraits for removing unwanted reflections from the skin.
Otherwise, I love the things, they're just generally useful. And while the sky effect gets a lot of attention, their ability to cut through reflections is great.

Basically any time it's sunny, they're fun to have. Here's architecture. Not really a great shot, but damn if it isn't pretty, and the darker sky helps the exposure of the cathedral.

whilst filters like CPL can help with contrast and saturation it won't change the lighting.

if the time of day you're shooting is poorly lit, no filters will help.

Might not be a good idea to do this all the time, but pushing up the saturation in camera can (sometimes) make some pretty jpegs.
