What has everyone here broken? (Camera gear related obviously)
Like from wear and tear, the environment, accidents while shooting, etc. (Not things like hot pixels or intentional taking things apart etc)

I've cracked my D70 body
Knocked the 18-70 af-s elements out of alignment
Worn out my flash circuitry on my D50 (Warranty replaced it)

But thats all. Of all the equipment i've owned and all the camera bodies, and all the pictures i've taken in nasty dusty or rainy environments, I haven't had anything else break on me...

Pic related (Broken 18-70, left side is still sharp, right side is out of alignment)

Broke my 50mm f/1.4 when I crashed on my bike - it was fixed under warranty. That's it.
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
Broke my 50mm f/1.8 while very drunk and trying to take my camera out of my bag to take a photo of 2 girls. the lens was on top of the body.. and kinda flew out when i grabbed the dSLR... it bounced and rolled for a bit. I just stared at it rolling and started to laugh (because it looked funny at the time).
The image quality is still fine but it won't auto focus anymore... and manual focus is hard because it gets stuck'ish.

It's $80 minus your discount, just replace it.

Dropped my 30/1.4 sigma while helping an old woman in the airport. Now the focusing ring is almost jammed D:
>> scrote
put a dent in the corner of my zuiko 50 1.8, it's fine but the lens cap won't go on. i cracked my sekonic too, fixed it up with some super glue, it seems fine.

that's it, i guess.

Don't think I've really broken anything. I did tear a shitty Sigma 28-80 apart to see what was inside once, after I replaced it with decent glass (over ten years ago, I musta been like 13.)

Oh, I did fuck up a Chinon screw-mount SLR the other day. Scratched the ground glass trying to clean some gunk off of it. Camera was probably already fucked anyway, though, the whole plate that holds the lens mount was loose and wobbly, thing probably leaks light like crazy. It's still focusable, and the ground glass is just a few little spots of fucked-up-ness, so if it doesn't leak light it's probably totally usable. (Although the light meter seems to be fucked.)

My camera just has regular abrasion wear and tear

My RRS ballhead however has taken a crapload of fall damage though... Its more silver than black now. Personally I think that just makes it lighter now

UV filter broken when my dad picked the camera bag up and the contents disgorge themselves.

18-55mm II kit lens due to noobs leaving it in AF mode and then storing it. Now I can't even go to f/4.0 at 18mm without it giving me Err 99.

My canon 10-22 is jammed
Canon 30D has a cracked body as well now too

I broke the plastic screen cover for me D80 :( :(
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
I've only managed to rip off one of the access covers on my A100, which I later found and re-attached. Im sure all the salt water and rain hasnt done any of my lenses any good either.

One of the mirror's inside my 300D got disfunctional, can't use auto-focus anymore. (not that I really even need it anyways)

I had a film SLR ruined by a broken camera strap. I was holding two ice creams for the kids and the camera strap suddenly snapped. I tried to catch the strap it with my elbow but it slid away and it hit the stone below with the edge of the lens. The force bent the lens mount. One ruined camera and lens.

My D70 fell from a tripod, the top display is broken now. Can't do bracketing, I can't see what my flash settings are and I have to look through the viewfinder to see what my aperture and shutter speed is at.

I've broken two Vivitar 285HV's. Don't really know how, one just decided not to work and later started burning and the other one just suddenly popped off a couple of flashes and then just gave in. Smelled like popcorn!

I dropped my 50/1.8 once too, it just got som minor scratches though.

Oh, and I've killed my SB-600 two-three times too. The warranty covered that, though.

I've lost a couple of things too! A radio transmitter for my flashes, almost all my lens caps, that rubber thing around the viewfinder and the plastic screen cover. I lost my Manfrotto tripod once too, but I found it the day before.

Oh, and I've only been photographing for about a year. :(

I dropped a Leica SL2 and 400mm lens from 4feet high onto concrete.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
PowerShot A95 dropped onto some big landscaping rocks. Left it with a big-ass dent in the top panel which is now being held together with superglue.

Dripped some sauce in my XTi's control wheel at a company party. It's been a little bit sticky every since then.

Bumped a light stand one night and cracked the shoe on one of my 285HV's when it fell.

On the other hand, I repaired the shutter on my Rebel IIS (looked like someone had poked it out of alignment), replaced the light seals on my Canonet, and replaced the LCD on my D50.

huh, almost nothing is worn out with you guys either.
Almost every break is from a fall.
>> Anonymous
>>276669

I've had stuff get quite worn, but then an accident or theft or something would happen before it was worn out. Then again, that was before I got more into modern gizmos. I suppose they're not going to last as long as the old stuff.

two different accidents 2 days in a row

You know that chinese bellows I have for macro? The threads on it stripped themselves out under the stress from being a mono over my shoulder. 30D said hello to a cement stair case, flash mount first.

Next day I was removing dust and build up from a dusty shoot from all of my lenses. A friend came in and knocked my lens off a chair a I had placed it on for a second while I dugout my bag. It landed filter first (shattered). The zoom ring is stuck, and the focus ring I won't try, feels like I'll strip a gear.

It's going to be 200$ or so replace the filter and get it repaired. Depends on how much I spend on a new 77mm UV.
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>276689

Not a good week then. Are you going to replace it with the same or a different model or brand?

I guess you weren't insured?
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
>>276692
No I wasn't, I was just starting to look into getting insured after I picked the 10-22. The glass on it is fine, so intend to ship it to Canon and get it repaired if it's under the original lens cost. For some reason Canon requires a proof of purchase for repairs, so I have to find my paper back home before I send it off.

The 30D is just cracked, and I've been advised to just fill in the crack with some hardening silicone.

Broke one of those cheapo radio receivers for wireless flash. Plugged in a sync cable, pulled it out and took half of the innards with it. Get what you pay for I guess.

>>276669
That's because I use NIKON and NIKON digital hasn't been around long enough for wear and tear to outdo the NIKON build quality.

Seriously, though, I've never used a single digital heavily enough to wear it out. I also count wear as normal and expected, not as "broken". I've run film cameras to the point where they no longer function; I have one little Yashica where the shutter only fires at certain angles, and at others, you just hear the little linkage slipping inside the body.

I've broken plenty of tripods and related accessories, come to think of it, though. Snapped a shitty one's leg off once, and I broke a monopod in half trying to use it to whack something or other, don't even remember what it was.

Lost my Pentax-A 135mm/2.8, I was mounting it, and saw something happening, tried to shoot. Except that I hadn't actually mounted the lens yet, just placed it on. Took a fall, optically still fine, but the aperture blades are bent and can't be changed.

One Olympus OM-1n body just stopped working all of a sudden. Shutter jammed, mirror won't flip up, film advance jammed.. Just got a new one.

Also threw a Zeiss Nettar once from about two to three meters, because the strap broke when I swung it out of my bag, It was open, and landed on the sidewalk. Just a small scratch, nothing else.

i threw my hasselblad h3d at an assistant during a shoot with ted danson.

the star filter took most of the impact though.

was in a hurry to get home from work.
Put camera case with camera on roof of car.
Got in car.
Raced home.
Reached for camera that was supposed to be next to me in passenger seat.
Realized what i had done.
Raced back to work.
Found camera on road between work and home.
Open car door and got camera.
only broke filter on lens and a few new scratches on my lenses.

>>276946
There are about five or four different 50mm 1.8 by Olympus.. Heck, the F.zuiko is even single coated. The best is the lens that has "made in japan" marked on the inside of the filter threads.

A OM-4 Ti I bought just a few days earlier jammed up on me :(

Had to buy a new one, but it's okey, I love that camera, probably the most advanced manual focus analog camera ever produced.
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m
Yashica Electro took a trip down some stairs, dropped my sunpak 383 super down same flight of concrete stairs today. Most of my camera gear travels with my in my trunk, D40 has a scratched up LCD from it. Dropped a cheap tripod into the Mississippi river, lost an SD card down a storm drain. The little light the lights up the meter in my F3 was broken and the one plastic part on the body doesn't stay on, so its taped up.
I don't think I've really *broken* anything (knock on wood).

about 30 minutes ago, after i finished shooting city landscape from a mountain, i ride back home in my motorcycle. not even halfway home i saw a sand bulking up in the road, i dont have time to evade it and my motorcycle slides in high speed then i fall sideways horribly hard . my right feet stuck under the motorcycle. my right leg and my right hand get bruises, blood, and peeled skin all over. my camera bag hit the ground hard.
miraculously when i thought my camera was turned into dust. it survived! both the camera and the new prime lens i bought 2 weeks ago..
thank you god for saving my life from the crash.

I don't remember breaking anything that caused it to not function.. I've caused quite a few scratches and what not and I've broken apart quite a few old MF lenses that weren't worth anything, and I had a few dead pixels when I used a d40, but I try to be careful with my equipment when I'm not smashing it apart.
