So I set up my dark room for the first time today. and I've been trying to make some prints following a tutorial from a book I checked out. It's rather vague though, and all my prints are coming out black (or like blobs).

I've tried various time combinations with the enlarger and the developer and get just about the same results.

Also, the paper I'm using is dated to 1973 (seriously). Could that have something to do with it?

Or is my developer too strong? I diluted it according to the instructions and shook it for a long time.

Also, I'm not using a safelight. I'm pretty much working blind. But the time I did use a safelight, it turned black in about four seconds when I put it in the developer.

Help is appreciated. And I apologize for not structuring this post correctly.

Ah fuck, I don't get paid for another 12 days. I will try a different package of paper and if not I'll return with results in two weeks.

THANKS /P//P/

i was thinking about setting up a darkroom, but then checked out a book on it.
Do you have proper vents?
if not chemicals evaporate and are bad for printing and for you.
you need vent cerculation for everything to go smoothly.
correct me if im wrong

My health is the least of my worries, I just want to see some results.

So I tried another paper, and an image actually came out. But it was foggy as balls on one side. So now I know for sure it's my paper.

Use a safelight, it helps to see what's happening as it develops, you can see if it's developing too fast etc.
