hay /p/

i was wondering if anyone here does fashion photography? i'm a noob at it, and i would show you a picture but i'm a shy loser, so thie uffie one will suffice for an example!

what kind of cameras do you guys use?
and are your "models" your friends, family, etc.? my friends aren't photogenic(besides one) and it's hard to find such nice models for me. maybe because i live in the middle of nowhere.

Good fashion photography reeks of sex, or at least that's my opinion. Unless your goal is to become a photographer for department stores I'd steer clear of family.

It's your job as photographer to give direction to the model, as to where to move their head, arms, etc while thinking about photos and composition at the same time. A fashion or high fashion model should be at least 5'8" . Otherwise, yeah.. practice on friends. What specifically did you want to do? Camera doesn't really matter.. i use my nikon n80 and a 35-135 most of the time

>most fashion photography reeks of sex, because it's usually intended as advertising for the clothes or the brand of the clothes, and ad companies have absolutely no compunction about using instinctual drives to make a fast buck.

Fix'd. It doesn't have to be that way, though. And I don't know about anyone else, but I just can't stand the way something as beautiful as sex gets made into a commodity.

Preferably sensual, rather than outright sexual.

oh... well looks like I'm not needed here.

Some fashion stuff seems pretty blatantly sexual. Sex sells, I suppose. Is that kind of thing or style frowned on by some of you guys?

lol, when you say "sex" i thought you meant the photographers should have sex with the models in the shoot and somehow that adds to the photos.

Sounds good to me.

I don't frown upon sex one bit; one would have to be rather dead inside to frown upon sex. I do frown on it being turned into a commodity or hijacked to sell things. If the only way a product can be made desirable is to piggyback on people's libidos, then it shouldn't be bought or sold in the first place. Half of advertising today is nothing more than unfulfilled prostitution by proxy.

Not much which camera you would use but what lighting and lens you want to use. Since most fashion shots are indoors and in variable lighting conditions i would invest in a fast prime and a good flash or strobes.
