Honest So You Dont Have To Be

Oh Lawd....
If by standard you mean most popular, then for the DSLR, look no further than the stock 18-55's, a safe bet that there are more of them out there than anything.
But it all depends how YOU shoot, id see it like this
Holiday: 18-200 (Covers most situations, dont "need" to change lens, and thus you dont need to carry them about, as a slr is a big sign saying "MUG ME")
Photo Walks: back to your style, some people go for the 18-200, some with a smaller zoom and a longer tele, personaly, i rock a 50mm prime on my body, a mid tele and a super wide in my back pack when i go out with the intention of taking photos
"because i dont want to miss a shot" times: The smart choice would be to say the 18-200 or similar, you dont stand the risk at losing shots due to your lens. But again, for this i rock the 50mm, i just love it, and ive used it to the point of knowing exactly what its going to look like when i bring my viewfinder to my eye (somthing that I cannot do with a zoom, and i take my hat of to anyone who can)
