hi /p/, I am planning to by a point and shoot camera for my family and I am thinking of getting Canon PowerShot SD800 IS. However, after reading various reviews, I hear that the image stabilization doesn't exactly work. So does IS work? and to what extent?

Does it matter? If you have an unsteady hand naturally, this might be an issue. But you could always learn to keep your hand still when you're taking a shot.

The second site should have some sample shots from the camera if it has a review for it. If you like the quality, then buy it. However, I wouldn't judge a camera solely on it's image stability feature.

I own a Canon SD800IS, and the stabilization feature works as advertised if you ask me.

It's a pretty nice camera, and you get a decent amount of bang for you buck. Shoots fast, too.

A friend of mine wants this camera, can anyone tell me what the difference is between the SD800 and SD850?

Here in Aus, they both being sold bu tthe 850 has a 100 dollar premium... yet from google i'm reading that they're the same camera with the 850 being the European name for the 800

Can anyone tell if there is a difference or are retialers here taking the piss?

I might just be speaking out of my ass here, but if my memory serves me right, the SD8xx has software image stabilisation, like the Ixus 800-series, instead of optical like in the PowerShop S-series (S1, S2, S3..)
