It's always either fungus or old ladies if you're not careful about storing your lenses and cameras properly. Nearly impossible to remove once they settle in. You can see this one has started gardening. It is beyond any reasonably priced repairs or salvage attempts when you see it in this advanced stage. Better to write it off.

This has been a pretty problem in the recent years for some reason. That's why most of the SLR manufacturers are switching to Live View instead of a viewfinder in their SLRs.
