I want all your bokeh. When you think you've given enough, give just a little more. Just to make sure.

I'm talking insane bokeh here. The more, the better. I'm an addict, I gotta get my fix.

finally,

a cat is fine too

did you take these? what'd you take them with?
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
Yup. All except the cat were taken with my Nikon D50 and 50mm f/1.8 Nikkor. The last one was with my Tamron 28-200mm f/3.8-5.6 at a focal length of, oh, probably 135 or around there.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
I take it back. Last one was 112 mm,f/5.6. I was close though!

nice. my canon 50mm f/1.8 is coming in next week.

Bokeh is just a commonly misused term, In this thread its referring to Shots with Extremely Short Depth of field.

What it actually refers to is how the out of focus elements of a picture are rendered. Good Bokeh being soft diffused points of light, and bad bokeh being Donut shaped circles (which look harsh in a pic). In the OP's pic for example The Red lights in the background are now flat looking circles, They are neither great, nor bad, because they aren't donuts but are neither perfectly diffused. But they are a good form of it, because they give a bit of definition without stealing too much from the pic.

The quality of "Bokeh" is determined by numerous things, such as the number of blades in the aperture diaphram, and the quality of the glass. Some lenses like the 85mm f1.4, Are fantastic for it, And other, (older 50mm f1.4's with 5 blades) Are very bad.

>Good Bokeh being soft diffused points of light, and bad bokeh being Donut shaped circles (which look harsh in a pic)

This isn't always true. Donut bokeh is almost always bad, sure, but bokeh is a property of a lens, like any other. I can imagine a photograph where donut bokeh is used to aesthetic advantage- just like a lack of sharpness is used to aesthetic advantage when someone screws a soft focus filter on the front of their lens, or uses a special soft focus lens.

Your argument didn't really state anything, It is Considered Bad Bokeh when they are donut shaped things. aka Harsh shaped circles, You can then use that how you wish, But that is its "Bokeh" Not the artistic value of a photograph.

You can have a ton of BAD things together and still create a (in someones opinion) Good picture.

You confused a definition and an opinion. "good" is relative, What is defined as "Bad bokeh" is generally defined as donut shaped circles. (or hexagons or whatever)

Bokeh is only good or bad relative to the rest of the photograph. That was my point.

Certain lenses have bokeh that's usually good or usually bad, but bokeh itself is just another element of the photograph.

Then why did you try to dispute the other posts claim? Don't say someone is wrong and then pull a 180 and say, Oh thats just what I was trying to say.

I didn't do a one-eighty.

My point was:
>[The claim that certain types of bokeh are "bad" or "good"] isn't always true.

>Bokeh is only good or bad relative to the rest of the photograph

>bokeh itself is just another element of the photograph.

Which, while not in total disagreement with what the post I was responding to said, IS different. Learn to recognize that a critique or a dissent is possible without being "u r rong n i m rite n u r sayin d wurds of saytun lol!"
