hey /p/

this is my conclusion,
after weeks of lurking gear threads and checking many and i mean many exif data's.

ive concluded on getting a d200 as a first camera as it has awesome features and superior quality.

I was thinking about the lower end models, d40,d40x,d70,d80 and then i realised that id need to upgrade from those fairly quickly which the d200 will give me space and time to learn :) a good solid camera.

ken rockwell will be mad because im not buying a d300 :( D300 really tempting but soo expensive especially if i want a decent prime too.

what i wanted to ask was, what lenses fit on this camera as im very confused about the catoulogues of nikon and the way they name there lenses,! thanks alot :)

wikipedia, congrats on comming to nikon :D

any F-mount.
if your looking in a catalogue, any lens you see in there will work 100%.
Any MF lens you see will also work too.

Get a Canon EOS 5D instead.

Pretty much anything F-Mount except for really old ones (pre-1977) that haven't been updated for compatibility with new cameras.

OP, that's an awesome choice. Enjoy your SLR learning experience!

And Ken Rockwell just PRETENDS to know shit, but really doesn't have a fuckin' clue.

Great choice though a Nikon D80 should be more than enough.

D200 doesnt have any anti-dust protection.

fail.

the d80 gives the d200 a run for the money. Besides the magnesium alloy body and 5 frames per second. the d80 is prob the better pick. But if you can find a d200 body for a good deal get it.
