I don't really do anything with straight ambient light any more, I find it amateurish.

i NEVER use strobes. i find it too synthetic. here's what ive done with natural light, and controlling my exposure+developing+printing.

is she a midget or is it just a weird focal length?

yea i don't like the strobe-light stuff either, people end up looking like plastic mannequins and it's very typical in the design-y side of photography.

Unnatural light is unnatural and looks amateurish since you apparently cannot take a good picture with out a burst of bright light. Real photographers use the light meter, trail and error and a lot of patience.

Here's a "amaturish" natural light shot I took yesterday.

Anyone can memorize power settings and angles and distances for strobes. Artists seek and recognize good light as it exists.

terrence malick makes some of the most gorgeously shot movies in existence, and he uses only natural light. the trick is to use it judiciously, because it definitely has limits to its useful application.

i'm pretty sure this is a troll thread, though.

so let me just say, only two strobes is so pedestrian to me.

you guys are gay. i just don't feel the unnecessary and fake rage in here. i am going back to the other flash troll fest thread.

>>Artists seek and recognize good light as it exists.

/p/ros create good light when they are on a deadline, on location and forced to work in suboptimal conditions

homeless photographers can walk around and wait for good lighting, /p/ros don't have to...

Hey guise, not op here, but given the following situation, which would you suggest I get first?

I have a nifty fifty and the kit lens, and a lolstrobist off-camera Vivitar flash.

I often find the kit lens lacking speed and the 50 being too long. A 35mm F2 would be great. On the other hand, I do a lot of object photography too, and I am starting to get customers for my work more every time. There are many times where I feel I could really use a second flash.

TLDR:

35mm F/2 to complement my kit and nifty fifty
or
Vivitar 285HV with an optical slave trigger.

Which one, considering they sum up to about the same amount of cash?.
>> SAGE
>>299867

im also looking for an optical slave unit. this one the one you are after?

No, not quite, I was looking at much more cheap-ass alternatives, actually. Just wanted to plug the optical detector to the second 285HV. I'll look into this one you linked.

This is what I had been looking at, but I haven't researched very long.
