hey guys, Kind of a camera noob here. I'm more familiar with manual. Looking to get into digital. i know you guys hate these threds but Which would oyu reccomend? I dont really want to spend more than 500-800 cause i'd like a few hundred around ('ve only got 900 to work with) to get a lens. I've got some old nice canon lenses and from my understanding i can use my old manual canon lenses with a digital canon SLI

So what would you folks recomend.

Also, could someone explain to me why the cameras with 8.2 and 8.0 megapixels are being sold for more money than the ones with 10 and 12

If you're shooting with a film EOS camera, then AFAIK the lens ought to work on a digital EOS. It's an issue of the mount, the way the lens connects to the camera.

op here

in that case, whats better, the 20d or the 30d, Cause i know a lot of local photographers.. well i've talked to them.. that swear by the 20ds. I want to pick up a canon so I can use this macro lens with it. The lens that i've got this sigma macro here.

I'd like to get the best thing I can for my buck. After using an SLR instead of point and shoots, I dont think i'll ever want to purchase a point and shoot again.

The 30D is a newer model of the 20D. Here's a comparison:

Op here. Thanks guys

well I guess I'd be best off going with the 20d. I mean.. I dont need many in camera editing features or effects, I can do that all in photoshop. I mainly just want something solid to take good quality images with. Alright, another noob question

The only good place i know of to order cameras on the internets is b&h photo. any other suggestions?

Is a 20d already too out dated to find not used?

I'm pretty sure it is, but there's nothing wrong with used.

B&H is great, and besides it being great as a photo store, I understand it takes in about $700 million a year and the owner doesn't own a car, doesn't eat out, lives extremely simply and so on and gives everything he doesn't spend to charity.

There's truth in the saying that if B&H doesn't stock some piece of photography gear somewhere in its giant warehouse, it doesn't exist.

Enjoy.

op here. i looked all over the site earlier and it said it had been discontinued, and when i tried to pull up the little box it kept redirecting me to the 30d saying its been replaced by that.
