Christmas is coming up, and my parents are willing to buy me a true SLR digital camera for around 300 bucks. What's the best one to get, /p/?

Pic related, it's what I have right now.

The one that costs 300 bucks. Good luck finding it.

Alright did a little bit more research, it seems the Nikon D40 would do me well. But it's 400 bucks. Is this a good starter SLR?

Look a few pages back on the board. This sort of question comes up every fucking day.

Yes, but you're honestly probably better off going with a used Nikon D50 if you want a Nikon.

But you know what you should do? Go to a camera store- not a department store or an electronics store, they'll probably only have two models, play around with all the cameras in your price range, and buy the one that feels right to you.

$300 will not buy you any new DSLR, and even if you can find a used one that cheap its not going to come with a alens

New you are looking at $500 for a D40 and kit lens
Used you "might" be able to find a D50 with the kit lens for $350

DSLRs are expensive... and stupidly so.

You dont have close to enough. Even if you do find one for $300, you are gonna want to cry because you can't get a memory card, or a tripod, or a bag to put it in.

Anyway... you can pick up an Olympus e500 or e330 from Olympus auctions or Cameta Camera on ebay... They sell there with kit lenses for under $300 every once in a while.

You should have seen the prices just a handful of years ago. I remember getting D30 would cost you thousands and now you can get better for a few hundred.

wait, you said SLR, did you mean DSLR ?
There are plenty of film SLRs that are under $300, but finding a DSLR for under $300 is next to impossible.

You're probably not going to find even an old well used budget kit (body and starter lens) for near that price. You'll either have to settle on a DSLR-like compact camera or save your pennies until you can afford a full kit. What you want is well out of your budget, especially when the lens, memory cards and whatnot come into it.

you could take a look at the Pentax K110D, you could get that and a kit lens for $400

I have one, it's pretty decent

Might be a stretch of your budget, but it is a good deal. That is more the price you have to expect.

I'm a /b/tard that does know photography basics. I also understand that /p/ isn't the place to be trolling.
