Hello

I'm pretty new to photography but I frequent this board quite often. Some friends of mine have asked me to go to a metal/thrash show tomorrow night with them and take pictures of the event for them. I'm working with a fujifilm finepix s6000fd and I'm pretty comfortable with it. I was hoping that you guys could give me any tips/pointers that might help my photos turn decent at least. Thanks in advance.

ISO800-1600, full-resolution, widest aperture (so you'd have to be pretty close to the stage), a steady hand and not a lot of expectations.

I've wound up shooting multiple concerts with cameras with tiny sensors like that. Here's what you need to do:

1. Tripod.
2. Accept noise; you'll leave bitter and unhappy and all sorts of nasty things if you try to fight it.
3. But do keep your ISO as low as possible. Don't worry about making them tack sharp; lower your shutter speed. It's either a little motion blur or a lot of noise, either way it won't be clear.
4. If the lights beat in time to the music, you can sometimes use them to get that slow sync flash effect.
5. Do go stylized; you're not getting clear shots no matter how hard you try. Use the craptasticness to your aesthetic advantage, like Holga users try to do.
6. All the above applies only if you don't use it. But don't, unless you're an ass or the band and audience are the sort who love to have their concerts punctuated by strobes.

Oh, and shoot raw. That's a given for me, always, so I didn't think to mention it.

Tripod + metal/trash show with moshin' people does not compute, captain.
