Brighter frame borders with coolscan v Anonymous
Sometimes when I scan the borders are brighter than rest of the frame. It doesn't happen always, so I have no idea what might be causing it.

On left: scanned with cheap flatbed, on right: coolscan.

That's pretty annoying for $500 scanner :S

just a guess, but I would imagine it's from extra light reflecting off the sides of the scanner just beneath the glass. if the photos you're scanning are close to the full size of the bed, I'd say use a bigger scanner, or scan a smaller print in the center of the bed.
hope this helps :/
