DEAR /p/...

I am shooting with a Nikon D40X, and using Photoshop CS2 to edit photos. When I open my photos in CS2 they appear very very dark. I have done a bit of research, but I can't seem to get it right. I have gone into Color Work Spaces and all that, but nothing seems to work.

Help?
PIC UNRELATED, a weird photo of myself.

Umn... That picture shows my image correctly.

I need to get it so that I can edit properly. It is too dark in photoshoop.

>>118034
Go on and guess.

Photoshop can make a good image great, and a mediocre image good, but crap will always be crap. If it's so dark that Photoshop can't sort it out, you're either doing something wrong when taking the photo or in post-production.

Look. The pictures I take are just fine. What is happening is that the viewing of pictures in photoshop is much darker than say... It looks on my camera. I need to know what settings or how to fix it so that what I see on my camera screen is what I see on my monitor.

Dude, fuck off.

On the left is how the image APPEARS in Photoshop. In the right is how the image APPEARS on every other application I have. Like, my camera, web browers, and MS PAINT.

I know what is wrong, I just don't know how to fix it.

Seriously you guys. I came here for help. If I wanted you to sage this shit or hurt my feelings I'd go to /b/.

Right, so either the LCD screen on your camera is turned up too bright, or your monitor is too dark. Photoshop doesn't magically make photos darker without you clicking anything.

check that you have the colour profile in your camera AND photoshop the same, i.e. sRGB

>>118043
see you there

Neither of those are the problem. I can't tell if you haven't read a word I typed, or if you are just a dumbass. Photoshop has color profiles to help mange the colours in your photos. It does not change my photo at all. If I save it like that, the colours come out right on other applications. The problem s that it is very very difficult to edit a photo when you cannot tell how it will look after opening it into a different program...

Se what I'm getting at?
>>118046
Thank you, but I'm not sure I know how to check my camera settings. I've played around with it, but have not found the way to change the color profile. I have also been into the Color Preferences menu and tried every different profile... None of them seem to work.

Thee problem is lying deeper than you have suspected - it is not Photoshop that is at fault. Rather, no camera was made to withstand such levels of what is called 'Butt-Ugly'.

Screw the picture that is up there. The problem occurs in every picture I put into Photoshop.

And until your face is being smashed in with bricks or otherwise improved, Photoshop, technology, and life as a whole (your parents being included) will be hating you.

goto:
Optimize image -> Custom -> Color mode -> and either Ia (sRGB) or IIIa (sRGB), not II (Adobe RGB).

In PS, make sure that your RGB is also set to sRGB
and your monitor as well. Right click desktop -> Properties -> Settings -> Advance -> Colour Management, make sure that sRGB Colour Space Profile is selected as your default, if not there, goto Add and search for it.

Use the Adobe one all the way. Better gamut.

>>118055
Know what? Thanks. That really did help a lot. I didn't even think about setting the monitor like that. I even did the Adobe Gamma thing to no avail.

My camera will not allow me to go to Optimize image... but I think I got it.

Thanks!

no real advantage for the average user. Just unnecessary colour space headaches. since everything else renders sRGB only.

Look, everyone is a beginner at some point. Give me a break alright?

Until now I used a POS Digital Camera and took photography solely on skill. I'm trying to step it up a notch and only one person is will ing to help.

you should have stayed with your "POS" and forced yourself to learn how to compose a halfway decent shot.. not shit of you standing around in your bathroom or whatever. even you know that you dont need a dSLR for that.

now, back to kitchen pls.

>>118066took photography solely on skill

LOL! Sure you did. You are showing your GREAT SKILL NOW DIPSHIT.

Your camera won't make you any smarter or a better photographer. You are too stupid to use it. Go back to your POS camera.
>> thefamilyman !!rTVzm2BgTOa
dear trolls, please leave my /p/ NOW

Cute girl is cute.

Listen to thefamilyman's advice. And go take more pictures. And resize them before posting here.

Adobe is better for making prints, yes, but sRGB is the standard for web display and so on. Most photographs taken today get seen more on the web than in art galleries.
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
If it's paying and prints are a possibility then it'd be worth while swapping it over.
