Its not a bad picture, though the overhead lights are a bit brighter than I would like. Good framing of the subject (The cute girl) Lots of patterns in the handrails.
However you really needed to be closer
That said, in the meantime, Work on getting some new / better shots together, and get them properly framed / matted. People don't criticize art like you think. If its up in an exhibit, people generally give you more respect. Only other photographers will really pick it apart, and they are the minority of people who look at exhibits.
Also they probably picked you because they like your subject matter, stick to that subject.
