The 80-200's a big lens with a lot of glass, obviously, and might not focus fast enough for my purposes. I suspect it won't be an issue, though, since I'm using a pro body with a powerful focusing motor, which should take care of any issues.
I actually owned the 80-200 AF-D a few years back, when I was still shooting film, but sold it with intent to get the AF-S when I ditched my film gear, because the digital bodies of the time couldn't focus it fast enough. It was really nice on my F100 and the F5s I tried it on, and my D2 seems even faster with mechanical lenses than those cameras did, so I'll probably be ok with one, though.
