You'd be surprised at the results of pointing the flash at about 45 degrees upwards, and using a piece of white cardboard (about 10-12 cm protruding from the top and about 5-10 cm wide at the tip) taped to the top of the flash. Works really really well. Catch is, is that you need to be fairly close (2-4 meters away give or take) for it to work properly.
And yes, the FA (assuming) 50 1.4 is great. I have one too, and it's never let me down.
Granted, I'm still using film (PZ-1P and a KX), but I hope to go to digital when I can afford it.
