Hey I want to get into photography, you guys got any decent starting places? What kind of camera should I get? Some basic lenses etc? Tips, tricks, whatever.

I'm new to it, I've been lurking for a bit but I'd like your personal opinions and any articles you think might interest a beginner.

Pic is of my current camera... Something I got to take on holiday with me. I don't think it's too amazing. 6.2 - 18.6 mm. Exilim Optical 3x. It says on the lens, if that's any help.

Thanks /p/.

Comes down to the whole 'Whats better Nikon or Canon' arguement doesn't it?

Go for a second hand DSLR, but ignore the Canon/Nikon debate. Just go with which ever one feel more comfortable for you to use.

Oh, and do *not* buy kit lenses. They are generally awful. Get a decent 18-200mm Sigma as your start lens, then build up your collection as you get more confident of your photography.

and after building a collection of lenses, you can swap the body out for a better one up the line and use the same lenses

...Forgive me but...

What's a kit lense? And is a sigma going to fit either camera? Explain what you just said, please.
