Ignore the Holga hatred here. /p/ has a major butthurt towards anything Holga lately.

As far as modifying it goes...
1.) Flock the interior of the camera. Basically paint it flat black to prevent light from bouncing around inside. This can help tremendously.

2.) The standard aperture settings switch is useless but it's an easy mod to give it two functional settings. A quick Google search for "Holga aperture mod" will yield results.

3.) The camera has four focal ranges stock, 3.5 feet (one person), 4-6 feet (small group), 8-10 feet (large group), and the mysterious looking infinity (mountain). With a small amount of disassembly you can add a 2 foot focus to it. You'll basically just remove the first stop inside the lens and make a new one about where the "c" in Optical is on the lens. Then bingo.

Tons of other things you can do though. Google helps, yo.

Thanks.

attach an internal screw that fits a cable release.

build in waist-level-finder

screw in filter (i think a 46mm filter ring would fit. just screw it in the plastic)

attach film-pressure-plate

there're really tons of things to do

b-b-but why improve the Holga?

I thought the shittiness was the entire point of the camera?
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
i wouldn't say that we're so much butthurt as much as we've just seen many convincing arguments for other, better MF cheapos (yashica tlr's, agfa clacks, etc.)

i own a holga, and it sucks. there is something deeply incongruous about trying to compose a photo with a camera that feels like it will fall apart at any second. i have no idea how such a shitty idea got such a cachet.

Use a lump hammer on the camera. Shove the pieces up your ass. Die.

I'm getting sick and tired of /p/ giving the Clack a virtual handjob every time the Holga gets mentioned. Have you ever taken a picture with one of those? They suck worse than a Holga and not in any good ways. They may feel slightly sturdier, but you can forget about any kind of focus from my experience with them. Atleast a Holga is capable of focusing if you know the correct distances.

I wouldn't call it "giving the clack a virtual hand job" so much as "mentioning it second in a fairly offhand way in a list of other crappy cameras besides the Holga"

I think there was only one guy who was all "Clack! FUCK YEAH!", and that's just because he owned one.

I dunno, it seems like it gets mentioned in a "FUCK YEAH!" manner atleast once every time a Holga pops up as if it's actually a better camera. It's not, it's less capable of producing a pleasing picture and doesn't have any of the quasi-gimmick features of a Holga that they are usually sought for. I mean, yeah, a lot of people may not LIKE the shots Holgas take because of the vignetting and occasional light leaks, but that's also part of the cameras charm to many people. The Clack doesn't do any of this in my experience (for better or for worse) but it lacks any kind of sharpness. Holgas atleast manage to have a small section of the photograph in the center fairly focused, clacks are just one big, blurry image that looks like it was taken with a 69 cent camera from a dollar store. No unique characteristics, no sharpness, nothing. Just a crappy photograph.

Not so much "at least once" as "once", is my point.

The thing about Anonymous is that one actual guy can seem like a Movement.

I can't recall a thread ABOUT Holgas in the past month that didn't get atleast some mention of a Clack being a better purchase with the exception of that guy that posted his Holga pictures. Whenever the camera itself is brought up the Clack gets brought up. Regardless of if it is the same guy or not every time, it's damned annoying because people that haven't used both cameras will probably think there is actually some truth to that statement and start fawning over a shittier camera.

It's like Holga marketing but worse.

Isn't Holga already cheap enough? You'll spend a lot more on film and processing anyway.
