Hello /p/

Please help me out. I never owned a digital camera and I'm looking to buy a general purpose ultra compact one. I've narrowed it down to either the Canon SD970 IS or the Canon SD870 IS.

The former has 10mpixel as opposed to the 8 of the latter cam, but IIRC more doesn't equal better, right? Besides, the SD870 seems to have the overall better stats (optical zoom, shutter speed, etc), the only thing that sucks is the design (imho).
Any opinions on which is the "better" cam? Also, suggestions on other cams in the same price range are highly appreciated.

flip a coin, because honestly it probably doesnt matter which is slightly better for you

you are right

the sd870 is better than some of the newer ones

canon likes to put good features at first and removes them later on

If it really doesn't matter spec-wise then I'll go with the SD970 as I like the design better. But things like 3.0x vs. 3.8x zoom they really don't matter?

dude

the sd870 has 28mm equivalent, the other is 35mm, able to go wider is better

the sd870 goes down to 2.8, the other is 3.2

Well shit, you're right. Turns out I told you the wrong models. I was actually talking about the 870IS and the 790 IS. They have different names in Europe and I was trying to find the US equivalent.

is that YOUR numbers or US numbers

regardless, the SD870 IS or Digital IXUS 860 IS is the better one

That's the US numbers. Our numbers are IXUS 860 IS and IXUS 90 IS respectively. I still can't believe my fail. Still thanks to anyone that replied so far.
