Sup /p/
So for Christmas I'm thinking about asking my family to get me a new lens for my D40
Would I be better off getting the 18-200MM or the 55-200MM?
I mean it's a pretty broad chance in price and I don't really know if it's worth it to buy the 18-200MM

Ken Rockwell reccomends the 55-200mm.

If cost matters, just get the 55-200mm.

If cost doesn't matter, order the 18-200mm and save yourself the trouble of swapping between two other lenses.

i bought a 55-200 Nikkor for my d40 last week and like it. I'm not on my usual computer otherwise i'd post some examples.

I've got 18-55 and 55-200 and changing lenses can be inconvenient, e.g. if you're just walking about in touristy fashion taking random pictures. It's not a problem if you have a vague idea of what you're going to shoot.

But then again you can get a SB600, 50/1.8 and a cheap prostitute for the difference in price, so if you aren't loaded I'd get the 55-200mm

Also, you get a lot wider aperture in addition to all of that, so screw the prostitute and go take some borkeh photos instead.
