Two portraits and a street shot. This first one was for my cousin's scholarship application, they needed a headshot for some reason. I guess they need astrophysicists to be hawt these days. Some moderate shooping due to the fact that my Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is wicked sharp and got every pore on her face. Cleaned up the circles under her eyes, some blackheads, etc.

Processed to emulate Tri-X 400's grain and spectral response curve using Alienskin's Exposure plug-in. Best plug-in evar.

Someone help me pirate TrueGrain, though. That program looks AMAZING. Still, this is pretty damn good.

Shot from the airport before I boarded my plane this evening, also processed to emulate Tri-X 400. Since I got this photojournalism gig, I think I'm going to try to shoot as much personal work in B&W as possible. As soon as I renew the chemistry in our paper's darkroom, I'll be doing it with the real stuff. Until then, Alienskin Exposure ftw.

She is just barely smiling with her mouth and not at all with her eyes. The overall effect is to make her look a little tired and droopy eyed.

(Which is more a criticism of your cousin than your photography, although it is somewhat your responsibility as photographer to get her to generate a real smile rather than a lame posed smile when necessary). Also the background makes her kind of look like she has antlers. Which, on further consideration, I think is awesome.

I think the point I'm trying to make here is that I want to have sex with your cousin.

This shot is win. Try to sell it to Southwest Airlines for thousands of dollars to hang in their corporate headquarters.

Cute girls make portraiture easy, don't they?

I like it very much

Yeah, she's kind of tired and droopy looking normally. I did what I could. Original attached, NEF out of the camera, untouched from default ACR settings. Guess it shows you the evolution of a shot a little.

Regarding this shot, I really really wanted the plane to taxi in closer, but the boy didn't stay put. If the plane was more apparent in the picture, I think it'd really be a great success. As it is, I still really like it, it's just not perfect.

I think that it's better with the plane small like this. Heightened feeling of anticipation, and it requires a bit more investment on the part of the viewer to figure out what the kid's looking at.

Difference of opinion is awesome :D

Sometimes it works in your favor, sometimes not, but it's always cool.

I'd hit it, but I can tell by the look of her face she has a monster hairy bush, which will need trimmed first.

Also, in before TITS OR GTFO.

Wow, they're just like Heavyweather's shopped version if he'd suffered some sort of head injury shortly beforehand that affected the part of his brain that makes him not suck.

I was posting the original to point out where I had done the real shooping. Facial blemishes, pores, and the dark circles under her eyes. I even touched up her right eye (the one on the left, if that makes sense) since it was a bit veiny. Thoughts on the shooping? My goal was to keep it natural, but remove the most egregious elements from the photo.
