Digital Videocamera Anonymous
Hey guys,
I need some help. I want to make a film, but don't know where to get a decent digital videocamera. The family camcorders most stores sell seem to cheap (and without too much pixel quality) and the ones that seem high end are a bit too expensive. Renting a good digital camera for a few days isn't an option either (it's so expensive to rent for a few days that I might as well buy the damn thing). If anybody knows what would be a good digital video camera to start with (to make a decent film), please let me know. If you know any good digital video editing software, that would also be helpful. Thanks,

But what if by some miracle you get distribution and they do a film out?

What's the official difference between movie and film?

The Red is still in R&D and a piece of shit. It overheats so much that operators can't touch it with gloves on.

That's not a 4K Red One, it's a 3K Scarlet. Only a 2/3" sensor, not Super35 full frame.

Officially? It depends on how anal you're feeling at the time. Depends on who you talk to.

a film is... gasp... shot on film.

The red camera defiantly has it bugs and has been a pain the ass of the film industry since its release. All these new production co. swoop in a buy these shiney new cameras that sell for 17 grand (just for the body mind you) will spend tens of thousands more on batteries, video monitors, mounts, tripods, matteboxes and LENSES. Its true you can walk out with a RED ready to shoot for under 100 grand and thats why they are so hot right now, because the companies buying dont have to fork over 250-500 thousand dollars on a panavision/aaton/arriflex film camera.

But the things go downhill from there, the RED is brand new in technology compared to film and HD. The workflow is completely different from anything we've seen before... Hell REDcine (the 4K editing software) is even released for testing yet. But all these new production co. are shooting their mouths off about their new REDs theyre over-heating and breaking down all over the place and placing back orders up to a year on prime and zooms lens for better film cameras. No one knows how to use the effectively because essentially they aren't done yet.
