Thoughts on this camera Mike
I'm really new to photography and I picked up the Olympus e-500 about a year ago. I haven
t used it much lately since it is so cold outside but I have used it on vacation and it worked good from my perspective. But what is /p/ opinion on this camera. I thought 8 MP was pretty good and I don't plan on printing out large prints.

here is a recent picture of the lunar eclipse commencing. I had to take it through the glass door because it is so damn cold the doors and windows in my apartment froze shut.

Here's a shot I just took. Nothing interesting but how is the quality of the shot?

What do you want to use it for? family snapshots it's fine. For artistic it can compete just not well. For 8.5x11 prints it will be fine. Will its iso be as good as nikon and canon dslrs? no. Will it be usable for a intro to photo course? yes.
>> Mike
What is wrong wit the ISO? It has a wide range to choose from.

performance

really it shouldn't be an issue for you

He means the amount of noise at a higher ISO.

All other things being equal, and they prety much are, a camera with a smaller sensor is going to have less dynamic range and more noise. Your camera has more noise and less dynamic range than an eight megapixel camera with an APS-C sensor (like Canon, Nikon, Pentax, etc.) use or a full-frame sensor, found in the Canon 1Ds series, the Canon 5D, the Nikon D3, and some shitty Kodak models from a few years back.

But it's nothing to worry about. The only real problem with 4/3rds cameras like yours is that the viewfinder is small.

any tips that anyone can give me? I'm going to a Convention in April and will be using it there.
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY

What kind of convention, what do you intend to shoot, and for what purpose you intend to shoot?
>> Mike
and how can I reduce NOISE? and what is dynamic range?

Look it up on Wikipedia.
>> Mike
It's an Anime convention, so take your weeaboo insults now and get them out of the way. mostly groups of people in a variety of light. some action shots (both indoors and out) and landscape shoots on the trip down there

set to shutter speed priority or 'sports mode' if you don't know how manual works.

iso range 100-400 should be fine.

Use the pop up flash, yes it will wash out some colors but no offense your lens is probably slow and you'll want the light.

Your enemy will be motion blur.
>> Mike
What about the shots of the people? would a high F/stop be good there? what shutter speed should I have for something like that? I try to have it set as high as it will go with the flash up.
>> Anonymous
we cant just tell you what fstop or shutter speed to use in any situation. it depends on the lighting, what youre going for, etc. go out and do stuff yourself.
>> Mike
But if I want something to be sharper and have more depth I increase the F/stop (close the aperture) , correct?
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
>>129685
1-2 stops for more sharpness

dont worry about dof unless you're going artistic. You're taking shots and a Anime convention not portraits for a show.
