I want to create a small studio to experiment with. I don't exactly know much about studio lighting, and want to know where I can get started and what I can buy that's reliable, but nothing too shnazzy. Pic not related.

buy some lampstand things with whit lamps, not yellow conventional lamps, and not those shitty coil low power lamps. (pardon the language),
you might want to buy or make some stands for white card, white paper does a decent job at reflecting light from outside sometimes.
you also want lights that are aimed at cloth reflectors rather than directly at your subjects.
instead of posting on /p/ go to a camera store and ask them, or post on a photography board.
