Just buy whatever one you like, you indecisive fuck. Go into a shop and try them out, buy the one there that you like from the helpful staff. Enjoy.

The Canon. It's all about the lenses, and Canon does better lenses.

Get the one that fits your hand.

I'd say go the Nikon, my personal opinion is that Canon don't have very good shutter speed (how quick it takes the photo) and it pisses you the hell off. Nikon ftw

how do i put extrem fast shutter speed on my nikon?

The ideal camera for anyone coming here and asking this is the Nikkei DLN 9000A.

XTi? consider to buy body only and a better lens than the one bundled in the kit.

D40x doesn't have AF capabilities by itself. The lens needs to have motordrive. Otherwise you'll end only with manual focus. Not a big drawback if you already knows how to use it, though.

Both are good cameras. There's no big difference between the lenses unless you're really picky, but Nikon ones are a bit less expensive overall.

1)What are you going to use it for ? (i.e. Travel photography, etc)
2)Get the one that fits in your hand.
For me, I choose Nikon because the Rebels felt awkward when I held it and I felt that it could be easily broken. But you will be happy with either of them.

Great camera, great price. I ordered two for the holidays (one for me, one for my girlfriend) and I still can't believe the shots I'm getting out of it.

this nikonfag says votes for the nikon. im still stuck with the stock lens tho(been 3 months since i got the camera). but its good for learning before blowing all my income on a new AF-S lens.

This canonfag votes for the Canon. Better selection of lenses that'll actually meter and autofocus.

You can't go wrong with either one, so don't worry too much about it. I think the D40 is cheaper, so go with that if you're strapped for cash. However, the XTI is worth the extra money for features that the D40 doesn't have.

As far as lenses go, Canon lenses are superior... if you go up to the L series lenses. Otherwise, Nikkor lenses will suit you just as well. That being said, you may really want an L series lens in the future; I've spent far more on L lenses than on my body (350D). But again, if you're a bit strapped for cash, you may well want to get the cheaper of the bodies (D40) and spend the extra on good lenses.

But again, either one is a good buy.

Go to a decent store and try both of them out. Personally, I hate the feel of most of the Canon bodies. I honestly can't tell you why, I just really disliked how.. flimsy I guess the Rebel line felt in my hands. I'm also not fond of the interface, so I went for the Nikon and I love it.

Do try them both out before deciding though. All the lenses and sensors in the world aren't worth squat if you're so uncomfortable with the camera itself that you don't get out and use it enough.

OPs answer is simplified to this:

1. D40x good camera, but there are problems getting lens' because of lack of autofocus system in camera.

2. The canon was obviously built for people with bony little fingers (that actually fit between the lens and grip) and a love for the ugly fucking menu. Also its package lens is horrible. On the upside its colours are great.

3. In my opinion either go for one of THREE. The Nikon D40 if youre skint, the Nikon D80 if you can afford it, OR the new sony cybershot 8 million pixel camera. Its a great camera at a low price.

Nikon have a pro line of lenses, they just don't put a special designation for them.

...and Canon's are still better. But that's my subjective view. Once you get to needing pro lenses, the differences are pretty much totally subjective. That is, you'll know which one you want.

Oh, and sorry, but learn some grammar. The singular of "to have" is "has."
