Took this picture of a spider in the backyard... What should I do to make the picture less bright? I know im using a shitty camera, but it was a gift and I can't afford anything else...

Play with the curves and levels in your image editor of choice. I can't speak for Photoshop, but in Gimp the 'Curves' dialog is under the Colors menu.

(I've found that changing the curve from a straight line to a sort of S shape does wonders for most pictures. Play around with 'em and look at the various effects that changes have on the picture. It's easy to get the hang of it)
