What make is it? Nikon. It's the 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF VR lens, and it's exceptional.
What makes it special? VR, and comparatively great performance across almost all focal lengths except the furthest telephoto end. VR stands for vibration reduction and essentially allows you to shoot low shutter speeds with good sharpness. Apparently it's supposed to give you the equivalent of 3 stops of latitude when making your exposure, though that doesn't mean much to you, I'm sure. It basically obviates the need for a tripod in many situations where you'd need one, and helps for low-light shooting, though it doesn't do anything for freezing motion. But, as you're not a professional, I'll spare you most of the intimate details of the lens, and just tell you that it's the best consumer lens Nikon makes, period.
