new lens tizzou !!HuouSd+PYUs
So, I currently have a Canon 40D and have the 17-85mm f4-5.6 and hate it. It never seems sharp enough, terribly slow, and it's not constant. The range is fine, I rarely need anything longer but I dig the wide end. I'm thinking about maybe getting the ef-s 17-55 IS f2.8 but it's awfully costly.

What do you guys think? How much do you think I could possibly sell my lens for? Or what other lenses would you recommend?

Also, REBATES!

How would any of us know better than the resellers or auction websites? You can look on them just as easily as we can if you want to sell something.

The 17-55 is as good as it gets for Canon crop zooms. Take it or leave it. Read the reviews and decide if it suits you.

I had the same problem, and I posted it on /p/. Fucking hate that 17-85.

If you like heavy lenses, get the 17-40L f/4, otherwise get the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8. It makes a little more noise, doesn't have IS, but is sharper and lighter than the 17-85.

A helpfull anon posted this link in the other thread. As you can tell, the tests show that even the kit lens is sharper than the 17-85 on the wide end.

There is an active tamron 17-50 user group on flickr, as well as an active canon 17-40 user group on flickr. Both of those lenses are well loved.
