AWB is fine in the daylight. It only has issues with man-made lighting. If you shoot in RAW, you can correct the white balance trivially in postprocessing, too, so I'd recommend doing that if you can't be arsed to futz with white balance while actually out shooting.

As for the problems with these pictures: You've got a Nikon D80 there. You're shooting at ISO 100 with an absurdly low shutter speed for your subject. You can easily bump that ISO up to 400 before you start getting any image quality issues. The main problem with these images is the motion blur and camera shake.
