Good afternoon, /p/.
I was wondering, how many people here sell their photos? Also, how would i sell something? Personally, i probably couldn't sell anything, but still... I'd like to know.

I sell photo's and services

Its easiest to sell services, aka do studio work, modeling, weddings, events, clubs, shit like that.
You make the most money (on a per hour basis, compared to trying to sell prints / stock photos), and its really easy to convince people you are good enough (Show previous work)

Selling prints / pictures is not as easy, and requires you to build up a lot of potential contacts. Gallery sales are not good around here, you need to offer something that other people feel they can't do.

I sell panoramics and Infrared pictures mostly, once you explain to them how hard it is (even if its not) they are more willing to buy the pictures from you.
Profit here is difficult, you can basically charge whatever you want, however your pictures start off very elastic (no-one knows you, therefore they don't feel that your pictures are worth any more than anyone elses),
and the more famous you are the more inelastic the demand for them will be (Aka you can charge more and increase your profit)

some people here used stock photo sites, not too much profit to be had. one example being istockphoto

/p/rotip: Photography is a service, and not a product.

dont show up for free and then sell prints. show up for money and give free prints.

I do a lot of club work, taking photos for clubs and djs. Its fairly easy to get into but actually getting people to pay you for photos can be harder.

Once you're in though it's pretty much easymode so long as you can be reliable.

not OP, but does having a degree in photography make any difference in selling/services? i'm guessing it probably will but i could be wrong

well if you have exactly the same quality of photographs as person x, but person x also has a degree and charging the same prices, who would you use?

I sell photos...but not many. I shoot for fun, and people sometimes want to buy prints on the side. Don't get more than $1K a year though.

That's still nice. Allows you to get a decent amount of accessories or start saving towards a new lens
