focus in low light Anonymous
any tips on how to focus in low light?

when it's dark dark in a club or bar, autofocus just cycles from minimum to infinity and you can't see shit in the viewfinder

so the only thing i do is guess with the distance window on my lens

my flash has focus assist but i don't want to use it (the flash)

lol @ using shitty canons/other cameras that focus assist with the flash. Get a Nikon.

Was going to make my own thread, but my question is related.
What's a good affordable night shot camera that can take shots without the lights and everything looking like a seizure?
I live for night photography.

get a real flash with a non strobe focus assist light.

if you use an external flash, most of them have an invisible infrared focus assist beam that won't interfere with your subject

oh well, i found one of those keyring flash lights and it works okay except it puts a strain on my hand to hold the camera and lens with one hand and switch all the time

24-70 2.8, which is why i can take some shots without the flash but it still doesn't lock focus because it's too dark

Some cameras are better at focusing in low light. Or at least, this is what I've been told.

If you are that desperate to focus properly, spend a few thousand dollars on some new camera body.
