70~200mm f/2.8L IS USM Anonymous
Any XTI/450 users here have experience with the 70~200mm f/2.8L IS USM on their camera?

have you noticed any disadvantages to it being used on a cropped sensor camera?

I like natural light and find myself using 2.8 allot on my 17-55, that's one reason I'm considering this zoom over f/4 versions.

oh yeah, and recently i read that review on DPR about how the canon 70-200 is better on full frame/worse on crop and how the nikon 70-200 is better on crop/worse on full frame

bleh, whatever, quality looks good enough for me, i'm at f/4 mostly, only 2.8 when i have to or want to

Well you you like shooting tele, then a crop sensor is a no light comprimising 1.6 tc.

thx, the weight is no prob(I workout regularly..lol), but I haven't got to shooting 5+hours a day yet...

how far would you estimate is the max distance you could be from someone to get a nice tight shot of them? One reason I'm thinking this lens is for sports photo for some extra cash.. also the sports photo thinking is one of my reasons for thinking f/2.8

hmm, i have no idea really

use an online calculator for that

i use this one: http://www.tawbaware.com/maxlyons/calc.htm

use the Dimensional Field of View Calculator thing

and input the numbers

so at 200mm on 1.6x, subject at 10m, i can frame something 1.2m wide by 0.75m tall

I used a non-IS 2.8 on an XTi once wide open for a night. Everything was soft as fuck, though I don't know whether that's because of the aperture or my terrible handholding - it's one heavy lens, even with a monopod.

you cant see the difference between motion blur and lens blur

LOL

OH SHIT I LOST IT gamebreaking motion blur is one thing, but handholding at slightly slow speeds often gives an effect similar to a shitty lens.

I shot with one for 30 minutes or so once on an XTi. Ever since, I've wanted this lens so bad...

I use it on a 350D and love it. Sporting? With the 10+ MP sensor on a 450D, you should be able to be across the court and still get a decent closeup, though you'll be cropping the final image. Without cropping? At 320 mm equiv, I can get some decent bust-shots at up to probably 100 feet away.
