Cheap zooom for D200? Anonymous
I am just about to buy a used D200 and I need to get a cheapish AF zoom to go with my 50mm AI. I want something that will let me learn to use the AF and decide what sort of focal lengths I need before I get some more expensive zooms and primes.I can't afford much at the moment due to buying the body, and I am trying to decide between:

AF Nikkor 28-105mm f3.5-4.5D
and a
AF Nikkor 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED

I am leaning towards the 28-105 for it's macro abilities and lack of distortion. I won't be able to buy a dedicated macro lens for a while. What does /p/ think I should get?

first of all, stop trolling with that macro bullshit

then take a pick between nikon's 593 standard zooms that fits your budget

Hey Nikon! We need another standard zoom! There just isn't enough redundancy for my liking.

The Nikon D200 will later be recognized as one of the legendary digital SLRs of our times.

Buy one now when you can.

I don't see how I was trolling with 'macro bullshit'. The 28-105 is apparently surprisingly good for macro work.

I also doubt any of those lenses you mentioned will fit my budget at the current time. My original budget has already been well and truly blown by the D200 body, and it will be several months until I can buy a newer lens.

What do you mean by 593 standard? and why will this be so much better?

If I have to get one of the newer lenses, it means I am stuck using the fully manual AI until I can afford a better lens. I would like to start learning to use AF and aperture control on the body ASAP.

Was planning on getting one at some stage, but I have a 50mm f/1.8 AI already and was going to use that for a while before I decide which lenses I should get and in what order.

18-55 VR, stop posting now

I meant I will have to wait for longer to start using an AF lens as I only have a manual AI series lens from the late 70s ATM and It will take me some time after buying the body to save enough for a newish lens.

I expected to have to use the 50 I have for a while by itself but saw some cheap AF zooms.

With Nikon at every trade show people speculate about what primes might be updated to work with their budget DSLRs or what other new lenses may appear and then Nikon just go "standard zoom, lol!".

I'm crossing my fingers for at least another two to come out before Christmas or at the next trade show at the very least.

why that lens, and why stop posting?

I have only got one response so far that actually justifies itself ->>273443

And no one has said anything about the lenses I have mentioned.

I realise they are all AF - but they all cost too much for me at the moment AFAIK. I was planning to use the 50mm MF for a while before I could afford something newer then I saw some cheap secondhand older AF lenses. I don't seem to be communicating properly or for some reason no one is quite understanding me.
