Posting a few photos I took at a gig last night.

Please ignore the 'newfag' border and tag, Im posting them as I process them for sending off to the band's profiles.

I know the photo quality isnt perfect, and from the EXIF you should be able to see why. They've had VERY LITTLE Post processing, apart from the obvious borders etc, few of them have had the curves tweeked.
EXIF data available. Clickhereto show/hide.

The face being unsharp is rather damaging, you could it's sharpness fairly easily looking at the photo, consider doing so.

Yeah I was really put off by the unsharp face, it was alot worse, although I did apply a small amount of unsharp mask to that. Anymore would have made it obvious.

The photo attached to this post is incredibly blurry, although I think it captures the energy of the performers which is what I aim for - Although I know its not everyones preference.

What lens were you using? The 28-135 kitlens? Don't you have a faster lens? My cheap 70-300 goes at like f4-5.6 so at ISO 1600, I can get some sweet close ups. I think the D80 maxes at ISO 3200. Make full use of that at shutter priority or manual. Grain and underexposure can be dealt with but not blur.

I agree with NG on this one.
I tried fixing it up a bit as well, but the small size and JPEG made it impossible for me to do what I wanted without significant artifacting.

Its the 18-135 kit lens, using fully manual. The ap. changes due to the smallest aperture depends on the focal length. What tools do you use to reduce grain?

My lens is terrible, and its rare that I get a decent bokeh due to the small apertures.
But in this photo I'm impressed at how the background came out.

There's no background and the ZOMG PURPAL ORB and that thing sticking out the back of his head takes too much of my attention. His expression is great though but what I said above just ruins the photograph.

Too much black space for me. Cropping, it can save a poorly composed photo. This might look nice if you do it to the original.

Ah yeah, thats alot better, i'll have a go.
I've got a thing for black space, no-one else seems to agree but it just appeals to me, seems to make the subject stand out more. anyway, back on track..

Another photo for you guys.
I really dislike the lead singers pose etc in this, think it looks tacky - the background is the only thing interestiong, but the band seemed to really like it.

This would be so totally win, if the guy just wouldn't look like he's got yellow fever.

And, as I say this in every band photo thread, use highest possible ISO, and shoot RAW. Also, better push than sorry.

I'm looking to upgrading, but I love the focal zoom range of the lens. I've been looking at this 17-55mm f/2.8G DX NIKKOR, for the f/2.8 speed. But right now Im skint so havent bothered to explore that deeply into it.
