Film SLR help needed Anonymous
K i hate to ask such a mundane question BUT I need some advice
I have a d50, and I want a film camera as a B&W artsy backup.
Film compatible lenses are (And a Sb-600 so I need a hotshoe)
28mm f2.8 (MF)
50mm f1.8 D (AF)
28-70mm f2.8 (AF)

I have found 3 Used Nikon SLR's camera's in good condition for "cheap". (Canadian $)
F401x = $82
F501 = $96
F801s = $156

I wasn't really planning on using the Autofocus, So all i'm really looking for is a solid camera to use with completely Manual settings (flash aswell)
What one should I get?

I own a F301 and it's shit, totally not "solid", but it's usefull when i need a second body with other film

get the F801s, unless you really can't shell out $50 more, because it's AF, metering, flash and shutter speeds are much better

ok Good enough, I actually found some other 801s for cheaper anyway, though that means shipping across the border...

If you're not concerned about anything automatic, consider an FM2 or FM2n.

Ya i had heard good things about the FM2's and the rest of that series, BUT they are about 100$ more and I can only find them in the states so Its a little too expensive for me.

I own both a D70s and an N8008s (US name for the F-801s). I also have a Nikkor 50 1.8 and an SB-600. I can confirm that this combination works, and although I haven't touched film since I got my D70s, I know that particular combination of lens, body, and flash work together.

How is the battery life on the 801? I hear it takes AA's

scratch that question anyway, I found a FM10 for reasonable, And the split focusing screen makes it pretty much a must have for me!

you can change the screens on the 801/8008

Ya I know but in the end it would cost me more than the FM10, And I don't really need the AF ability of the 801. So I think I'm going to go for a 4 year old Used FM10.
