Lunar Photography adsphoto !qM5u3XvSls
I shot this picture of the moon last night using a 70-210mm lens. It came out not too badly, but I had to shoot at the long end of the lens and do a lot of cropping, which basically means that it would essentially be impossible to get a decent print out of it.

So I ask /p/ - for this kind of work, is it better to buy a longer lens (such as a cheap Vivitar) or a telescope with the ability to mount a camera?

If you're looking for detail, then a proper telescope is unmatchable - even pressing a mainstream digital against the eyepiece, guessing exposure, and trying not to move too much can yield some pretty good results. With real equipment, the results are extraordinary.

Picture taken be me, with above method.
