Do you think it's worth buying the S5is over the s3IS?

Yes it is worth it, get the S5. But then of course there is the Powershot G7, which is superior to both, unless you really want the X12 zoom offered by the S series.
In that case you can also take a look at Fuji, they make some nice similar cameras, at an atractive price: Fujifilm FinePix IS-1 and Fujifilmn FinePix S9600, both look good, both I don't know at all. I played with older Fuji's and they have a nice very nice feel, and offer excelent features for money.

Yes, I've given the Fujis some thought, too. I like the S6500, just the right features for a reasonable price (and gotta love that wide angle). The S9600's kinda off my budget already.
Too bad they don't have any sort of image stabilization (which is what makes the Canons attractive for me)

I'm supposed to get an S3is soon, but with S5is' arrival, I'm not so sure anymore.

I've got a S5100. It's a stellar camera for the price. The 5000 or 9000 series is a nice camera if you're not ready to spend the cash on a SLR.

I posted this yesterday:

Apparently it only works for DIGIC II though... so one advantage the S3 has over the S5 is people have had enough time with it to hack it to support RAW. ;)

Man, if I can get the S3 for dirt cheap I might pick it up, just for having a small RAW shooter.

Absolutely, if only for the addition of a real hotshoe.

The SxIS series is impressing me more and more. If only Canon would add raw capability to their non-DSLRs...
