I think the point here is that there is too much going on in the background. If it was just the sky or one big building it would work better. Try a different angle.
The background is very busy, and the subject's hair and clothing blend in with the background buildings, to some degree; as well as the subject's skin, with the bricks somewhat. Otherwise, I think its a really cool picture.
