shot my first wedding this past weekend. here is one of the portraits i did of the bride and all of her bridesmaids. i did a little selective desaturation to bring the bride out, you guys may think it a bit gimmicky but i think she will like it.

i still have about 1700 more shots to go through so any feedback would be appreciated!

I came in to post this. HOLY FUCKING SHIT! The bridesmaids were absolutely tragic before, and now you've made them into the walking dead. NEVER EVER desaturate women's skin tones unless they're glowing red.

Seriously, though. The bride is okay-looking, and the one in front is just a kid, but the whole back row is just a shame. (L-R) neuroti-hick, gae'thor the soul-consumer, cavegirl mullet, moonface nosebrow.

I'm sorry, man. Put the saturation back in that photo and post some others -- maybe you did okay. But keep in mind that if you were the [[OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHER]] for a wedding, and the photos don't turn out well -- that woman and most of her family will hate you for the rest of your life, and slander you so that you never shoot another wedding again.

I actually think some minor, unnoticable desaturation of the other parts of the photograph might have helped this. But this is way too much. Like everyone is saying, they look like zombies.

Better yet would've been shooting without flash, opening up the aperture, and having the bride stand a little bit farther forward, so the bridesmaids are slightly out of focus and the bride pops that way. Then you wouldn't need stuff like this to emphasize the bride.

If you had a wider lens, that could've helped, too. You know the first pic in the thread of the guy who shot his prom? I'm thinking something like that.
>> Anonymous
If you can't use flash, then don't use it at all. You ruined the shot with really bad lighting and then made it worse with awful editing.

No, sometimes you can desaturate people. I said earlier to not desaturate women. You can do a lot more harsh edgy stuff with male portraits, like desaturation, green filtering, sidelighting, etc....but women almost exclusively want the dreamy airbrushed glowing-skin look.

See what Andrzej Dragan does to portraits for some examples of really awesome things that (young) women would never let you do to their photos.

Yeah same here. Friend of mine was getting late and her wedding was like three weeks away so she was like, "Why don't you shoot it? I've seen your stuff, it's great!" I just laughed and said, "As much as I'd love to pop my wedding cherry, that's just waaay too special of a day and I'd probably screw up and you'd hate me forever." I then proceeded to give her the number of a pro buddy of mine who's going to use me as a second shooter for some of his upcoming weddings this summer. Hopefully that'll get me a little more used to those kinds of gigs.
