"I told you so" annoyingmouse
Hi /p/.
ages ago I started a thread where I was whining about how I miss live preview, and oh god the noobness - a swivel screen!
You were all like "oh no thats not useful, you don't know what you are talking about" etc.
Anyways, the last month have showed us that ALL the new top models announced have a 'live preview' function (Canon Mach3 and 40D, Nikon D3 and D300). and now - Panasonic DMC-L10 with both live preview AND swivel! and yes yes, I wouldn't call it a pro camera, but still.
Well basically my messenger is not working atm and I am lonely in the office so came here for some company. You can ignore this thread.
Preordered a D300 btw, eager like a little kid.

why don't you wait for the olympus E-3 if you like swivel screens and live preview

>Canon Mach3
lol wut?

The announcment of the D300 is the end of "why dont you wait for.." as far as I am concerned, since it has EVERYTHING.

and "Canon Mach3" obviously refers to Mark3. got mixed up in my head with a shaving blade for some reason, no pun intended.

Uh, you kinda contradict yourself here.

here are my insanely accurate predictions for the future of cameras (NIKON AND CANON REPS DON'T COPY THIS I'LL KNOW)

1. More megapixels
2. An 80-200 zoom, possibly f/2.8?
3. Image stabilization
4. ISO 1,638,400
5. skyrocketing price tags

The screen on the D300 is so good, and the viewing angle is so wide, that even the subjects you are photographing can see it! that is the equivalent of a 450degrees viewing angle - better than a swivel screen! It is kind of like those one-speaker suround systems.
But seriously, the LCD on the new Nikons is said to be so sweet, that I will turn a blind eye to the fact that it doesn't swivel.

And mark my word, the next "big" step up in cameras will be the incorporation of real mobile processors like the Xscale and Windows mobile edition (like on PDAs).

Lol uhh, that lens has been out since the early 90's
I have a 80-200 af-s f2.8 Nikon lens..
anyway i get the humor in your post but i had to point that out :)

Canon DSLRs already run part of their software on a x86-compatible CPU with DOS. TEH FUTURE IS ALREADY HERE!

very high equivalent ISOs are already available for digital cameras.
some have achieved quantum efficiencies of over 0.9 (the chip counts more than nine of every ten photons that hits it)

90% of the photons emitted at a certain wavelength, you mean. i think the average is like, 30-40%.

this is a response chart for a four year old commercially available CCD.
modern astronomical detectors are significantly better
400-800 micons is roughly the range of visual light, it varies a bit from person to person, though...
even 0.3 is a damned impressive jump from the 0.0001 film you were using ten years ago...
