Hey /p/, I'm in a bit of a bind. In a few weeks, I'm going on an excursion that involves wading in waist high water and I need a waterproof casing for the P&S I plan on bringing (Canon A550) but I've heard that they could cost a lot and I don't have much money. I won't really be submerging it completely but I want it to be safe inside. Anyone have any ideas or guides they've seen online for making one?

Unless you're trying to take pictures underwater, this should be fine.
Just remember to double or triple bag it.

Might take a little longer than a few weeks to arrive, but there are lots of chinese retailers that sell casings for dirt cheap.

The A550 is small enough that you could probably get away with some sort of plastic bag thing. If you want to give it a try, maybe try cutting a square out of a large plastic bag and cementing in a square of acetate (think cokin filters). If you don't have any a CD jewel case might work.

I have the film camera you posted btw. You reminded me of it and now I'm debating whether it will be a waste to run a roll of kodak slide film through it underwater when I go on vacation this christmas. I think I will, if the sun is bright enough.

Guide for making: http://www.jimadsonphotography.com/info/uwhousing.html

It's for a video camera, but I'm sure it would work just as well for a still camera.

How to get free stuff from the internet, like Amazon gift certificates and shit:

Step 1: Install Firefox autoreloader: http://tinyurl.com/32wqmn

Step 2: Go to this site: http://tinyurl.com/ynkurk
and sign up. Make sure to uncheck the box that lets them send you email offers and garbage.

Step 3: Go to the search page at that site and input any search. (internet hate machine, etc.)

Step 4: Set Firefox to autoreload the page every 5 seconds.

Step 5: ?????

Step 6: Profit! I won a $5 gift certificate in the first 15 minutes. It might take longer, but if you just set it up and leave it every day, you get tons of free shit. (Make sure to check your "My Prizes" page periodically)
