1. lithium batteries have a limited lifespan, anywhere from 12-24 months, as soon as theyre manufactured they start to degrade.
2. not sure if its batteries in general or lithium again, but in colder heat they have less capacity, so in theory shooting in hot temps should help them out, dunno how "extreme" hot temps effect them.
3. also, dunno bout the xti but the 30D's battery meter flashes when it gets real low.
4. also, dunno how much you were shooting, by 8 hours do you mean constantly, like a shot every couple secs or more laxed than that, cos usually out of one charge ill get over 1000 shots, plenty of review off the lcd and the occasional flash...
so i guess it comes back to how old are your batteries? also, dont worry about paying more just to get OEM batteries, its like buying OEM filters... theyre probably shittier than the available 3rd party options...
