Don't the D40's only accept DX lenses?
>> Anonymous
>>155331
they accept cat peaking lenses too

No, they accept pretty much any nikon lens.
The limitation is autofocus, they only autofocus with af-s lenses. There's a small, really old subset of lenses that they don't meter with, either. But almost any nikon lens will mount.

Uh, most of them are old (Zeiss ZF series is a notable exception), but there's a fucking ton of different AI lenses even if you don't include third-party ones.

Yeah, that wasn't the best way to phrase it. Point is, you can probably find something good that'll meter.

Most of the time you can. Although with a D40, there's a chance that you'll be paying more for an AF lens that still won't AF, lol.

I wouldn't call it a chance since you can plainly and easily determine it will work just by looking at the name of the lens or the lens itself.

I didn't mean "chance" in that sense. I meant that a lot of lenses, especially primes, are available as either AI or AF-non-S versions, and owners of D40 will have to buy the more expensive AF version only to get metering.

That's true, but most people will never even notice. Most people buy their lenses new, from camera shops, electronics retailers, or online. Since there are very few AI-S lenses still sold as new, and the ones that are are fairly rare to actually see on a shelf, it's unlikely that the average person will be confronted with the choice between an AF and AI-S lens. If the person is inclined to buy used, they would hopefully have done enough homework to know what used lenses they might want and whether or not that means they should steer clear of the D40 in the first place.

doesn't look like a box, more like a flyer in the shape of a d40

probably just store made material and not nikon issued, if it is, then nikon just did it for the lulz
