Read up on resolution as it applies to lenses rather than sensors, and consider that the lens doesn't have to resolve quite as finely to match up with the larger pixels on a full-frame SLR. It more than makes up for the loss of corner sharpness that you get from taking the whole image circle rather than just a 1.5x crop.
