shooting the lightsphere straight on Anonymous
if you use the lightsphere (clear version) straight on, will it have the same effect as the omnibounce?

i'm going to order either one and it seems like the lightsphere is more versatile if it does the same thing as the omnibounce if used straight on

(no i'm not buying the $40 one from gary fong, but the shipping is still like fucking $10 for ONE item to where i live so i only want to get one, not both)

tupperware works better than both of those

bump!

just want to know if i put the lightsphere instead of the omnibounce with the flash angled like this, front on

will both have the same effect?

Lightspheres have a removeable top t hat reflects the light back down and out. If you take off the top, its a bare flash head, it you leave it on, nothing comes out.

>>249128

i mean, the omibounce is just clouded white plastic, you fire it front on and it diffuses

the lightsphere's removable top part is also clouded white plastic, so i'm just wondering if it will diffuse it like the omnibounce does

does that make sense?

All of Gary Fong's shit has two main features:

1) It doesn't work as well as Gary says it does.
2) It is fucking overpriced as fuck.

Also, OP, I am pretty sure that the top of the Lightsphere is less translucent than the top of the OmniBounce, and you're also going to get a lot of weird light reflecting all around the direction that the flash is pointed...

It might be cool, though.
>> Anonymous
>>249137

nah, i'm getting it from ebay, it's like $5

i saw the pictures and it looks like the same translucency except it's flexible plastic instead of the more rigid one on the omnibounce

oh well, lightsphere it is, seems more versatile than just the omnibounce

L lens on a rebel?

I'd agree with that.
The "Whale Tail" might be better, but I don't know if there's a good knockoff yet.

yes there are some

you get all the free gels with it too, a bit more than the fake lightsphere

but i'll be honest, it looks like it's more trouble than it's worth for simple on camera attachment

Strobes are more important than glass.

Glass is more important than bodies.

L on a rebel is instant win.

No. The rebel has shitty ergonomics, a shitty viewfinder, and mediocre ISO performance.

a consumer grade 24-120 and a $1,500 24-70, both at f/8 will have very little difference

with enough light, any lens is a good lens

Alienbees on a kit lens will always look better than L glass with a pop-up.

Any lens is well-corrected, that's different than being good. Different lenses produce different-looking results.

if you use a shit lens with a 10000000 dollar light rig your still going to get a shit picture. its not going to be AS sharp and bokeh is different and chromabs are different and colors can be different and all sorts of things can be different.

for studio shit i cat see any reason to get a 300 dollar flash over a 90 dollar one.

did i say shit lens? i said consumer grade, like a 24-120, 18-70, 18-135, you name it

sharp? every fucking lens is sharp enough at f/8

bokeh? oh wow, you must have never used studio lights right? you're going to shoot at f/1.8? wow, newbie anon is newbie

the meme is cromab, not chromab. and you're doing something wrong if you're getting cromabs in the first place

colors? gb2leica/zeiss faggotry

you have no idea what you're talking about

If you're still interested in the difference - wait till' Tuesday. My lightsphere will arrive on Monday and I'll post some results with the lightsphere and the omnibounce.

Lol, with studio light, sometimes I cannot even shoot with F8 at iso 100. The amount of light is insane.

So stop down. Or use a faster shutter speed. Or get an ND.

This is all obvious stuff.

wait what
i thought it was brand name > size of zoom lens > has battery grip y/n > has speedlite y/n > tightness of jeans > thickness of glasses lenses > cases of PBR and/or Miller

Sorry my bad, I got /p/ priorities wrong.

Leica > Nikon > Canon > Lens with L, EX, SP> Battery Grip Y/N > megapixel > 18-500mm 2x Teleconverter > f1.4 > f1.8 > Borkeh > Photoshop > Composition > Focus > Png > Jpg > Raw > flash > model > strobes

So... I've got my lightsphere today.
Ordered the clear, universal version. And chose it, because I'm planing to buy a couple more flashes in the future, and want to be able to use it with either one. Plus, some people say that the other version tends to come off rather easily.

First of all, let me say that it looks really stupid on the flash!
That said, it does what it's supposed to do. And it's a rather nice accessory to have.
I've tested it on the Canon 430EX. And found that I like the lightsphere better than the omni-bounce. Especially straight on. With omni-bounce, you have to rather crank up the ISO a bit, or use the manual mode, to get more light. The lightsphere really lights up everything all around.
Here are four pictures:
First one taken with the lightsphere, bounced off the ceiling.
