Wow, that camera has some pretty strong chromatic aberrations. Those are the little red and cyan fringes on the sides of the leaves. They show up most when there's a dark object with bright light spilling over its sides. It happens because the glass somewhat separates the spectrum into the different elements of white light, and doesn't correct them completely, resulting in them hitting the film plane (or sensor in this case) at different points.
As for the composition of the shot, I suggest playing with some of the metering modes on your camera. If there's an option like center-weighted or spot-metering, that will make it compensate so the leaves are brighter.
Leaf macros are fun, though. Don't be afraid to play around with whatever manual settings your camera has. This shot is a good start.
