Unfair Test of Film vs Digital Anonymous
Well here is a minor comparison, Its totally unfair as I don't have a scanner so I had to use my D70 to take a pic of the slide... So its lame at best.

Truth is the slide looks amazing IRL, And the digital is well, looks very static.

here they are for you, First pic posted is the "Scan" of the slide

And now here is the digital taken at the same time, With the same lens, (with different settings since my Velvia is only ISO 50!)

Well, that's one thing I notice about shots taken with velvia, even over other film, is a very real, almost 3d look. It takes a bit of work, especially with the contrast, to get digital anywhere near it, and even then it still strikes me as having a flat look, however great the results.
>> Anonymous
The second one is a little too dark.
>> Anonymous
The shots are different and the 2nd one is underexposed.

How are we supposed to compare them?
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
Hey, i remember you! How did the slide film turn out? I'm curious. Did you liek it?
>> Anonymous
>>58826
There is no real direct comparison, For one the aperture and shutter speeds would be totally different, and the flash output for this shot might have also changed (I just used TTL and dialed it down to -0.7)

>>58839
The slides look freaking amazing actually, Its too bad I don't have a Scanner to take a look at them how I normally do (on the comp). (I do have a lightbox that my parents had, so thats all i have to go on)
Other than the low ISO, aka Slow shutter speeds / wide open shots. Its great to be using film I have confidence in. I had heard how bad the exposure latitude was on Velvia but it seems to pick up more dynamic range than my Digital camera's!

ITs a good thing all my glass is f2.8!

I'll post more as I "ghetto" scan them!
>> elf_man !fBgo7jDjms
Film inherently handles highlights better, and since we notice the bright areas more, it's going to seem to have more dynamic range. Of course, from what I've seen, velvia holds an amazing range of colors as well, it handles tones that I know the color spaces on my camera can't without hardcore postprocessing.
Can't wait to see a few more.

I can't wait to see. That's part of what I just adore about velvia and provia and what it can do.

Ok heres a few of my favorites, Keep in mind that this is probably one of the worst ways to scan film, And I can even tell when viewing them projected on my wall (An off white painted wall) That they are sharper and more saturated than these show.

But untill I get a scanner This isn't too bad, at least I can digitize them somewhat. Editing I tried to keep as little as possible, Some levels to compensate for my imperfect flash, and in a couple pics i sharpened them a bit.

the scratches are on a plastic plate below it that I have to distance the Paper (That the flash bounces off of) To light the slide. HEnce the Made in Japan part that you will see in some of the pics.

This pic came out strange digitized.

The skin tones aren't nearly as red when you look at the slide directly, Not sure why the D70 picks it up soo Red...

Heres some Sports in Really bad lighting! Shutter speeds were mostly 1/125 and 1/180. So they were all pans.

Last pic for now! Let me know what you think!

Overall I'm very happy with the slides, And its about $8 CAD to develop 36 pics, So not bad seeing as I still have another 27 rolls of it left!

wow, another very nice shot.

$8 CAD is great, I'd gladly pay that and the cost for some velvia if I could find someone that'd process E-6 for me :(

Where do you live? Also, anyone know of anywhere in the Niagara Peninsula, Ontario side that can process E-6? Closest for me is up in Hamilton (too far to be practical)

I live on the other side of the country (In British Columbia, Kelowna)

I went to London Drugs (They have to send it away but they can at least do that), Not sure if those are out east aswell, Even my little camera store only charges 9.99 for 36 slides. Check the phone book even for crappy little stores and phone them up and ask.
I know Costco doesn't do them.

ill expect to see this one scanned. awesome shot, must see the shadow areas you speak of.

Really like how this came out. I like the others too, especially the dog and the motorcycle shots.
I think the red is a nikon thing, have to watch the reds with the d40 too. Like if I were shooting that red flower, I would have to make sure to turn down the saturation first (I normally keep it maxed), just so it doesn't blow out the red.

This is wonderful; Love the fairy tale feel to it. Nice light, too. Real interested to see the actual scan, because i'm pretty sure it's more lit than that (I hope)

>>58893
Simply beautiful.

>>58897
I love the shaking dog, that's really cool.

>>58902
You're lucky that's at the price it is, to have a place that, even though they send it out, can keep the processing that cheap. I pay 6.95 a roll right now through a 1 hour developer (I love it) but when i went to other places, they tried to charge me 12-15 a roll! And they sent it out to the place i'm going now! It seems to be worth it to wait for them to come back.

I'm going to test out London Drugs Scanning methods in a few days, Mostly because I want some of these printed! So if they are any good, I will upload them. If they aren't well then I will buy a decent flatbed scanner with ICE and a slide holder.

Heres another one of the same dog, It has crazy eyes! Also the skin tones were a little more natural in this, On the slide they seem perfectly fine. I wouldn't worry too much about people shots with Velvia 50. Just don't underexpose and push process!

I know of a place in Buffalo that'll do E6. They suck, though.

I know there's a camera store in downtown Niagara Falls, ON (outside the touristy area, but I forget the name of the street. It's a kind of run-down one. They might do E6 or they might at least know of a place that'll do E6.

Prepaid mailers!
The fuji mailers are cheap as chips and will process kodak e6 without bother. The leadtime is a little long though.
A&I mailer is faster and uses better holders but is $11, iirc.

This shot was really only meant as a test / comparison to Digital, But the Sky makes it decent enough. (Also my N80 has very accurate metering, This shot was bracketed)
