Hey guys, I've been reading about EXIF data and I was curious how it threatens one's anonymity. If I took some photos and posted them online, how could that data be used to track me?

Additionally, what are some methods of destroying or modifying EXIF data so this doesn't happen?

I've been using a pretty crude method of opening the picture in a photo previewer, taking a screenshot, and posting that. It works from what I can tell, but there must be a better way.

The FBI will find out it is you who is taking the pedopics by matching your extrem fast shutter speed to your camera and how many ISO's you were using.

No, it's nothing illegal. If I take shots of my family, I don't want any of the creeps out there to stalk them or hunt them down just because I wasn't careful.

if you're worried about pedophiles, what the fuck are you doing on 4chan? this is fucking pedophile central.

then again, maybe that's why you're worried in the first place.

For the lulz. Just because I come to this site doesn't mean I have to willingly allow my children to be molested.
Being here definitely does make you worry.

Yeah, I got the irony when I was posting that, although the websites I meant were MySpace and Facebook and stuff like that.

Protip: Most of them are probably joking, and the ones who aren't are at least controlling their problem with CP instead of molesting kids.

Teach your kids some common sense and they'll be fine, unless some Delta Force storm your house intent on molesting them. There's more likely threats out there to protect them from, and you can only worry about so many things without snapping and/or being a "helicopter parent."

But good luck with everything.

ITT people forget that IP adresses exist, and are 1000x easier to find out where someone is than Any EXIF data could EVER be.

I like to think so.

However, some aren't. Just go to 2chan, that place is full of paedophiles.

There was something about this, printers having an "invisible" serial number/"thumb print", GPS used to track rental car company customers, and a bunch of other paranoia on "Big Brother, Big Business" on CNBC last week.

You can easily strip EXIF in GIMP or PhotoShop. Heck, if you're that paranoid, just convert into .PNG! Where you post the images online has more to do with potential stalkers than EXIF.

If you REALLY want to be paranoid, you can open the image in a photo editor
