I was trying to take some group shots under the shade of a tree the other day with a Canon S2IS. I had it on semi-programmable. However I noticed when I got back home that shots were slightly out of focus in places (Like people at the sides), chromatic abberation and if they moved an arm there was blur. Not being very proficient with a camera I am trying to figure out what I should have done. I had the flash on but it was a distant shot so it obviously did not provide enough light. Can anyone tell me what was wrong with my settings? I think the 1/60 shutter speed is the problem here. Should I have had it set to shutter priority mode?

1/60 won't stop fast movement. You needed to use a higher ISO. I don't know what to say about the smudginess on the left. Is your lens clean? Looks like maybe there was a fingerprint on the front element or sumthin.

Also, shoot in burst mode when you're shooting a bunch of people at once. You'll have a better chance of capturing "the moment" if you have five or six or ten moments to choose from.
