So what would you guys rather have for three grand from the other brands?

And does anyone know of a list of 'fully' compatible lenses for this guy? (none of the cropped eleven megapixel ones).

well if i was looking for a full frame body, either the a900, or the d700 or the 5d. they're all good bodies, i don't know where all the sony hate comes from. with those 3 grand i'd get the cheapest ff body and some lenses. Don't know who has that currently though, i haven't kept up with prices.

no one likes new competitors, and not when they got highly trolled by *ahem* someone for close to a year.

I'd rather have a 80-200/2.8 G HS and an A700 than a A900 anyway, FF doesnt mean much to me.

funny how in 70+ years film never had a problem making wide angle lenses its bitch.
>> Anonymous
"Full frame" is such a retarded term. I can't believe anyone is stupid enough to use it. "Full of shit", more like.

If that is "full frame" then what are all the other formats of larger size? Call it by its size or something, not by what the Canon marketing department has brainwashed the gullible into saying.

>> Anonymous
>>251869
it derives from the fact that most current sensors don't fill a full frame of your standard 135 film that, while these sensors deliver the same area as 135, in other words, the fill the frame.

somebody missed basic reasoning class.
>> Anonymous
>>251858
How do you not have "true wides" on smaller formats?

24 replaces your 35.
18 or 20 replaces your 28.
17 (no 16mm non-fisheyes, for some reason) replaces your 24.
14 replaces your 21.

And if you need something wider than a 21, chances are you're doing it wrong.
>> Anonymous
>>251880
then maybe they should work on achieving film-to-sensor parity rather than this LOL MEGAPIXLEZ bullshit they're doing.
>> Anonymous
>>251892
Whatever the hell you're talking about, physics doesn't work that way.

Light needs to *directly* hit a digital sensor; not so with film. Less-than-ideal light transmission with a digital sensor leads to problems in the corners, especially on wider lenses.

Smaller sensors help this, for reasons you can look up yourself because I don't feel like finding or drawing diagrams, or trying to write a simple description of what's going on.

you can't really start a comparison like that because it's skewed. if you said which full frame DSLRs would you want from other brands, then it would be about right. else you get all the faggots that come in and say 'lol my rebel wuz 500 dollars fuk sony a900 and its over9000 price lol'

as far as a comparison of full frame bodies, price wise, the only one that's really much cheaper, if you're buying new, is the 5D. but that's a 3 year old body. the d700 could be found for as low as 2600 or less if you look hard enough, again new, but typically its around 2800. d3 is around 4300, and the 1dsmkiii is over 9000. These numbers might be different, its been a while since i actually did some price checking. Users of respective systems will stick with them, of course, but someone who's looking for 'full frame' and has no previous glass attachment (is that even possible??) might very well get a sony if price is a main concern.

so really, this thread is basically a huge troll.

You realize that Nikon makes almost anything that contains even traces of glass, right?
>> Anonymous

When will people realize that Nikon is a force to be reckoned with for all things photography? They have the most bodies and most lenses out of any manufacturer, not to mention the very highest quality glass not just for DSLRs but for ANY type of camera available today.

>>252595When will people realize that Nikon is a force to be reckoned with for all things photography?

Maybe for the name.

When will you realize Canon Inc's capital completely dwarfs the Nikon corporation?

>> They have the most bodies

Nikon has the D3, D700, D300, D90, D60.

Canon has the 1Ds III, 1D III, 5D, 50D, 450D, 1000D.

>> most lenses out of any manufacturer

Pentax and Olympus have more.

>not to mention the very highest quality glass not just for DSLRs but for ANY type of camera available today.

Nikon does make some fuckawesome lenses, including the best SLR fifty (f/1.2 AI-S) and I've heard their new ultrawide zoom is the best ultrawide ever made, but I don't care about ultrawides or zooms, so I haven't looked into that, but to say they make the best lenses for any type of camera is a joke.

TL;DR Nikkor, please.

They don't "Make" the 50mm f1.2 ai-s lens anymore EITHER

the 58mm Noct sells for 2000-2500$ on ebay.
50 ais sells for 400-500.
not really relevant but humorous none the less.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.

Nope it's still in their current lens lineup:
http://imaging.nikon.com/products/imaging/lineup/lens/mf/normal/index.htm

If you get a paper Nikon catalog you'll find it there too.
>> Anonymous
>>252653
Last I checked, Nikon's website still says you can special order a 50/1.2 on the condition you can't return, etc. it.

The Noct-Nikkor:

A) Isn't a fifty.
B) Is if I understand correctly best wide-open, and gets bad if you stop it down.
C) Isn't subjectively as good as the 50/1.2 from what I've seen.
>> Herbie !!s1ksehRmCZk
>>252609
Unless you're doing astrophotography, it really isn't. Seriously - I've used both and I ended up buying the AIS because it was a fraction of the price and in normal usage it performed better wide open. The Noct is gorgeous, but rare and way too expensive for everything but specialized use.

I have used Nikon for more years than I'd like to admit. They indeed do have the most complete system and some of their bodies are quite excellent, but many Nikon lenses, to be honest, compared to what is possible are pretty damn average. Cannon is not much better.

there's two - a 50/1.2 and a 58/1.2

Nikon have a big cut of the optics market and a great reputation. Their microscopes are very good.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
Sony's principal business operations include Sony Corporation (Sony Electronics in the U.S.), Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Computer Entertainment, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, Sony Ericsson and Sony Financial Holdings. As a semiconductor maker, Sony is among the Worldwide Top 20 Semiconductor Sales Leaders.

From wiki. I dont have anything against canikon but you need to understand how fucking huge sony is.

Sony revenue 2008 = 88 Billion USD
Nikon revenue 2006 = 7 Billion USD
Canon revenue 2006 = 38 Billion USD

Nikon is nothing outside of optics compared to its rivals.
>> Anonymous
>>252787

That is a strawman though. They can't just magically take all that money from other divisions. It isn't one big open purse. They are like separate companies almost. For the purposes of that field then Nikon can and does compete strongly because they don't have to worry about cd players or TVs and other crap. Nikon have their money and research focused on cameras and optics and not wasted on shitty PSPs or Playstations as moneysinks.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s

>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.

Sadly Nikon isn't mostly focused on photography - neither is Canon or Oly, for that matter. Industrial optics are where the money's at, and if you look at annual reports or any business reporting about the familiar "photo" companies you'll find that's where the bulk of their business lies now. Hell, there were pretty serious reports about Fuji becoming a medical services company or some shit two years ago.

olympus has the edge over nikon though, to the average consumer nikons are viewed as "pro" cameras, whereas olympus manufactures mostly compacts to begin with and is just getting extra pocket change over its dslrs.
tbh i saw my first nikon compact like two weeks ago
