Now i wanna try out IR photography.

Don't most digital cameras have an IR filter on the sensor? Did you have to mod yours?

just put an IR filter in front of the camera and set a long exposure and voila, IR pics! (Custom White balance is also pretty mandatory)
The IR blocking filter doesn't stop all IR light, so without removing it you get long slow shutter speeds, but With a tripod its usually alright

Hm, you know of any site that sells cheap filters for the Canon Powershot A series.

Exactly. For the first I used a 15s shutter time. However, the second I toke with an olympus C2000z, which nowadays is pretty cheap to come by (Bought mine for 30 bucks off ebay), and is VERY good at IR photography.. Very sharp results, amazing colors, and, no tripod needed. Shoots almost any picture sharp without long exposure times

First you'll need an adapter ring, which'll cost you about 15 bucks, and an IR filter (58mm, hoya r72) can cost up to 50/60 bucks. It's pricy, but damn well worth it. A whole new world opens up :]
