Hey /p/,

So apparently one of the classes I'm taking this semester is a photography class. I have a budget of 150-~400$ max. dont necessarily need SLR but I figure if I put money into it Id rather get something I can learn to use manual controls. 6-10mp , indepth manual controls, and I am most concerned with photo quality on 8x10 prints. I humbly request /p/'s advice

are you sure you're allowed digital? i have never ever seen a photography curriculum that didn't start with 35mm b/w. It's usually only when you get passed that stage, that you are allowed to delve into digital.

I am in a graphic design major, and the program still has some classes from when it was blend of video, photography and design. ill only be using it for <14 weeks. and we dont have a photolab. and after that it will be a personal camera. though the savings in camera would pretty much pay for development / film. plus Ill admit I am a n00b, I understand concepts from the broadcasting video classes.

D40 kit if you can stretch your budget maybe 50 USD more.

I'd say 350D body and 50mm f/1.8

you dumb niggers.

used D50 + 50mm 1.8

Its better and cheaper than a d40 and well within your price range.

>80/1.8
Why is everyone so hellbent on recommending portrait lenses as one's first lens?

this. you wont regret it. pimp it up with some older lenses and accessories later and you'll get indie street cred. those design bitchez will be all over you.

i dont see any mention of a 80/1.8 in this thread.

50 + crop = 75-80

I use my 50 on a crop for excelent (ib4 trolls) landscape work so not really sure what he is moaning about.

They're cheap and don't suck.

Yes, it's bad to do.

No, /p/ is not going to start being logical and suggest a 28/2.8 or something like that instead.

Why?

Because it's /p/.
