Canon 20 D Beaumont
Ok /p/. I'm a relatively amature photographer. I have a few years of experance but still no where near 'pro' range. I've been shooting with a Canon Powershot a640 and a film Canon Elan IIe. I'm looking to upgrade to an am-pro level digital SLR. I have a photographer friend that uses a canon 20d for a backup camera and he said he would sale it to me for around 300 with a 28-80mm Sigma zoom lense. Is it worth it /p/. I've been shooting with it for a few days and it's not bad. But should I go with that or try to save for something a little better?

Sounds like a good deal to me, the 20d is a great camera...

That's a good deal. Something "a little better" would cost you about $1400. Something that's actually *significantly* better would cost you more like $2500.

I would wait. The 30Ds price is going to fall through the floor the next month. I work in a JapanPhoto-store, and our chain has just bough up all 30Ds in the european market. They will go for 400-500$ new, with the 18-55mm. Remember, this is european prices. (alot higher than american.) This will completely destroy the market, and I imagine it will effect the market in the US too.

The 20D is in fact quite old, and I would def check the number of exposures. Also, the 30D is a better camera.

You know what? Fuck what I just said.. 300 bucks is nothing. I would just get that 20D, unless you live in europe.

lol, i think you mistook the canon 30d with the 300d. There is no way canon is going to sell their mid-grade 30d's for less than their entry level 400d/450d. But you do bring up one good point ...

OP, are you talking 300 american or euro? honestly, you shouls just ebay canon prices in your region and go off that

No, im not. We are going to sell the 30D CHEAPER than the 400D for about one month.

For 300 bucks, I say go for it. I know several photographers that still use and love their 20D cameras.

I'm talking US dollars. I talked to him earler and he's thinking $500 us dollars for the camera, batter, charger all that jazz the lense, a fairly nice to low end 6 piece lighting kit, a standard 35 mm lense, and a decent flash controller or just 300 for the camera. It all seems too good to be true but he's leting me test the camera for a few weeks so I know it's good. I'm thinking about just get it. Besides I'm in college, being in college equals poor.

how the fuck is that a troll

buy it for 300, expect to pay money to get it serviced

have fun with your camera

It's all good. Troll or no troll thats why I'm here. I want ideas and opinions. Just to throw this out here he sent it out about a year ago to canon before his waranty went out. The mirror was replaced along with the shutter spring system. Does this change your opinion at all or is it still destend for the scrap heap.

If he's lending it to you for a few weeks, I think you'll get a good idea if it works or not.

20D is nowhere near "pro" range anymore. It's too old.

I'd get something newer. Save up the pennies for a 40D. Or, get smart and get a Nikon.

well the $500 technically sounds good because you're getting quite the deal.

but you said you're on a budget. all you need to get started is a body and a good prime lens (the 35mm with at least f/2.8). If he'll let you get the body and 35mm for 300~350 that would is pretty solid imho.

either way, your friend is definitely doing you a favor. anyone here would jump on that if they saw it on ebay.

oh, and whatever you do don't listen to this guy

I was at a baseball game last weekend. More than half the sports photogs with their white lens were sporting 30d and 20d.
>> Thanks Beaumont
Thank you to everyone. I've been shooting with the camera and it's treating me great. I'll try to get some images on here sometime for review. And as far as>>136878I know. the 20d is old but it's solid. Many people still shoot with it and besides, I am still an amature on a budget. Thank you to all and if more comments are out there. Send them.

It's a great price for a great camera. Go for it.

I know a lot of photographers that still shoot with the 20D and 30D. As long as the camera is in good condition and works, you're fine.
