prices?
also I would say D50 just because its more comfortable to hold / operate, and a hell of a good camera even nowadays.

oo the d50 is listed as $399 and the xti is $700

D50, then buy a 18-70 and 50mm f1.8
good start, not a bad price on the D50 either. Never look back!

The $300 saved going with the D50 is $300 you can spend on good glass. Get the D50.

I'm a Canonfag, but I just might say yes to the D50.

>* Transcend 80x 512MB SD memory card

get the d50, sell the 80 memory cards, use that to buy nice glass.
>> M/A !n21TE7QU8U
I would say the D50.
The specs of the XTi don't make it a better camera. A D50 has all you neet to take a good photo if you learn how to do it properly.
And, as said b4, use the $300 you save on good glass. Too bad the dollar is worth less than a pile of dirt in my lawn, else it would've been even awesomer.

Get D50, Nikkor AF 50mm/1.8 (new) and SB-28DX (used is OK, just be sure that it's in good shape).

That enough for about two years, until you master the composition and light (including flash).

PS. Don't be afraid of "OMGOMGOMG that flash doesn't support digital backs LOLOLOL". It does, in modes M/A/S/P, which you will be using for 90% of the time. That is, if you're serious about photography, of course.

i just came across another listing and this person is selling a 2 weeks old xti (body only) for $525, it comes with the original box and all the accessories

should i still get the d50 or go for this one instead?

d50 and while you're at it, get 50/1.8.

I'd say go for the XTi in that case. Gets you
* 3fps vs. 2.5fps, which can go for 10 RAW frames instead of 4 (and over 27 JPEG vs. 12)
* DoF preview button, if you're into that sort of thing
* 10MP vs. 6MP (which, granted, you won't notice unless you crop a lot of make seriously XBOXHUEG prints, but still. That's a lot more pixels)
* ISO100 when you need a bit less light
* .8x vs .75x magnification in the viewfinder
* A (mostly--but not *entirely*--worthless) sensor dust reduction system
* Bigger LCD
* 9-point AF instead of 5

Also, since you'll need to buy glass for either one, the Canon 18-55 IS costs about $20 less than the Nikon 18-55 VR, and the Canon 50mm f/1.8 costs about $20 less than the Nikon 50mm f/1.8. So take that $40 saved into account when calculating the cost.

Caveat/disclaimer: I'm a Canonfag and a Rebel XTi owner.

lol my friend just messaged me out of nowhere and basically he wants to sell his d70s

"im selling mine for 600
it's in like-new condition
and with it comes:
d70s body
4 spare batteries
1gb cf card
carrying case
and original box/instructions"

what now /p/ ?

Hmm. Anyone know if the D70s's high-ISO performace is fail, or if that's just the D70? I know the D70 is abdsurdly bad over ISO400. If the D70s is too, I'd still recommend the XTi. Otherwise, D70's better.

The D70s ISO over 800 is pretty much un useable unless you intend to convert to B&W... then it looks fuckin awesome.

The D50 is a better buy in terms of iso but misses two command dials and Nikon CLS... which i wouldn't be able to shoot without.

I never missed the second dial. Just a matter of pressing an extra button.

I shoot manual most of the time, i'd miss it like my left testicle.

Second control wheel is the main reason I want to upgrade. I usually shoot in Av mode, so whenever I switch to manual (which controls shutter with the wheel and controls aperture with button+wheel) I get screwed up. And then afterwards, when I switch back to Av, I'm in the habit of holding down the button so I end up setting the EV compensation.

It's probably a lot less annoying if you shoot manual all the time or never shoot manual (or even shoot shutter-priority most of the time), but it's annoying as hell for me...

Muscle memory is part of his problem, not a solution to it.
