First one is great, although I'd crop maybe a third of the trees at the bottom out. Just a smidge too much.

Second one doesn't do much for me.

its the focus that catches me out, infinity on the lens isn't actually infinity... its 'there about' infinity. My new tripod is rock solid tho, i'm pleased with that.

And that's your problem. Stars move, so a rock solid tripod won't do. You have to make a moving tripod to move as the stars do.
