Ok, story time /p/. I work night shifts, which means I am up till the wee hours of the morning on my days off lurking, or when I can manage, doing night photography. I decided to drive to a lake and try out a few new techniques I came up with. Including using my spiffy laser pointer to get an easy point to focus on in the blackness of the viewfinder.

I spent a great deal of time driving to finally get to the lake, and behold! A female rent-a-cop is parked at the entrance. Apparently the lake is closed until 5am, two hours from the time I arrived. She escorts me back to the highway. And I don't have time to wait it out because of the damn long drive home. In defeat and frustration I took this picture of the city dump methane burnoff on my way home, and looking at the composition now, I feel I have truly epic failed tonight. 45 mph wind gusts anyway, even WITH a heavy tripod, had to shoot this from a damn drainage ditch to get anything.

well a long drive for some might not be that long for others. both in terms of how long is considered long and how close people live to it.

well, not really I guess, its just close enough to the city that there have been two dead bodies found there in the last year and a half. Murder-Death-Kill!

They also in the last year declared it a "wildlife management area" Which means no swimming/fishing lake wide, and boating in designated areas, and nothing over 45mph. This also means no more offroading which was what the place was famous for, people came from a time zone away just to ride the miles of trails. Technically it wasn't eliminated, but 80 square miles > "Family offroad area" 2 square miles. They have really ruined the lake :S

Oh, but mah lazar worked! Did a test going out of the city and it makes it super easy to focus distant objects in near total darkness. Image is still fail though due to wind, among other things.

Well, it isn't a long drive for a lot of people, I just happen to live on the opposite edge of the city. About an 1.something hours depending.
