How does one check the actuation?

it depends on how many times you have put your camera through a full reset. as far as i know if you haven't fully reset your camera and it's settings it should be fairly accurate. but i have no fucking clue.

Is there a way though it can suddenly bloat up? I've seen some photos with exif that said their actuations were negative 2 billion or something though that's just probably like a 32bit data limit thing.

you need to use a program to check it on the D70, they're not in the exif, iirc

Then that was a Canon. That happens sometimes.

any more info on them Canon shutter actuations? I've got a 400D bought brand new and its got some strange Exif for the shutter actuation (negative 320000+ value)

That number has no meaning at all.

Only Canon can see the actual number.

There is an image viewer (kind of like ACDSee or Irfanview, I forgot the name) that claims to be able to check the number but I don't know if it's accurate.
