I am getting an SLR (D40, just to begin, get some experience with) and the lenses I am getting for it are NIKKOR AF-S VR 18-200mm and a 50mm/f1.8 Lens, would I need any other lenses? nothing higher than 200mm? wide angle / telephoto lenses?

or would I be good with those 2.

The 18-200VR lens suffers from an issue known as 'creep'. Look it up.

>>The 18-55 VR and 55-200VR are better in every way
Truer words have not been spoken. This is good advice.

I didn't know shit when i first bought my D70s. Kept it on P mode all the time... till i learnt the basics of exposure.

So yeah, like Fence said, that's not fair, even if i do think he's a troll

18-200 get it. If you are starting out, you won't change from it much, trust me.

how is it any different than the 18-55 / 55-200 other both in one

Who the fuck wants to change lenses in the field or on vacation? I shoot weddings, and admittingly I use two camera's...but the one around my neck has the 18-200....

The other may have something wider.

I think you answered your own question. Aside from the lens creep and bigger price tag.

Mine doesn't suffer from it at all, its actually a bit too stiff in my opinion. Pretty much its biggest drawback, although thats better than creep I guess.

http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Nikkor18200mm/page7.shtml

Near the middle/end of the video there's a demonstration of lens creep on the 18-200mm.
