What could I have done to fix the focus on this shot? Was it my lenses or just my negligence?

get a real camera and buy a macro lens.

You could have focused on the flowers rather than the leaves in the back. I don't really know enough about your camera or the situation to exactly how you screwed up the focusing.

Also, if you were to shrink your aperture, you'd get more depth of field, so more of it would be in focus. You were shooting at 1/320th, so you could've dropped it by two or three stops before it would've become an issue, especially with image stabilization.
