Hey /p/

Well, I was helping my grandparents clean out my grandmothers late cousins apartment when I stumbled upon a small collection of cameras and camera equipment.

We where going to toss them in the trash, but they looked like they where in decent shape so I decided to save them from the fate of being dumped in a landfill.

Now I am know photographer, hell most of my experience has been with Polaroid instants and cheap digitals. But I have always had a fascination with photography since I was little and I figure I can learn a bit with these cameras.

So what does /p/ think of my find?

Along with the cameras pictured I found:
3 Tripods
2 - 3 flashes
Leather cases for all but the fold out Kodak
2 telescopic lenses

Well, really the only lenses I found are for the 35mm cams. The medium format ones only have the lens that are currently on them. Witch I think are the original lens that came with them.

Ill go dig around in some of the boxes and see if I can find any.

just to give you an idea of holy fuckshits medium format rules

Scanning some 120's at 300dps I got 7500x7500 pixels vs my 30D giving me 3504x2332

Of course you could buy a medium format digital backing for $30,000 but hey I think that whole film idea might not be that bad.

unless you are shooting 25x25in frames, i think you messed up in your math somewhere.

It takes more pixels to represent the same detail with a film scan, though.

I don't know about APS-C digital, but I know 36x24mm digital sensors have an edge on medium format film.

Well, the only things I came across for the medium cams are the original Instruction booklets and the leather cases. And I do believe that the lenses on them are the original stock ones.

I don't think any of those MF cameras are designed to take more lenses. Very few TLRs (the box-looking ones) and probably no folders were.

Still win.

Yea I think your right the booklets say nothing about using different lenses. The lenses that are on them seem in perfect condition. I also believe I found the flashes for them to.

Yeah, I think either your scanner DPI or your output resolution is off by an order of magnitude there...

Are they really that good? I really know nothing about cameras.

They're alright. Might be worth $50-100 each. They're no Rollei's.

notice how it says document size is 25 inches by 25 inches. that means unless you scanned a 25x25in frame at 300 dpi, you dont know what youre doing/talking about.

I don't think I am going to be selling them anytime soon, but thats nice to know.

O and these are the zoom lenses for the 35mm cams.

Just so you know, chances are 99% those go only on the Minolta.

Actually I got them to fit on the Petri with a converter ring thing I found with the cameras.

natureguy, you're whipping a dead horse. unspoken rule of /p/ #42: don't bring up film vs. digital unless you want an epic shitfest that proves nothing and brings the overall intelligence down to /v/ levels.

the medium format tlr's are awesome. the folding camera is cool, but i've seen my fair share of these, and performance is usually spotty. rusted leaf shutters, massive light leaks in the bellows, etc etc etc. the petri, i dunno. might be awesome. the konica is a good find, though. the hexanon lenses for that series of cameras are among my favorite, and they're all ridiculously cheap (8-50 bucks.) probably because no one knows about them.

Yeah, that's telling you the output size you could have. I.e., if you scan it in at a DPI to give you 7500x7500 pixels, you'll be able to use that to make a 25" by 25" print at 300dpi.

You're actually scanning at OVER THREE THOUSAND dpi.

Correct, both of those cameras have permanently affixed lenses.

The Kodak is worth probably $20-40, the Yashica-Mat is probably $40-70. The Kodak is nothing special as far as quality is concerned. The Yashica-Mat is pretty good, they just don't have any collector value.

>>136386
You might have rigged them on to the petri somehow, but they are most definitely not meant for that camera. Rangefinders aren't designed to be used with long telephotos or zooms. It just doesn't work.

Give me that Yashica please

Thanks for the info.

Yea I was wrong there was actually 3 more cameras that where found. There was a Petri SLR but I handed that of to my cousin, thats the Petri I had to use the adapter for. There was a even older fold out Kodak that my grandfather actually wanted and kept. And a old Polaroid that has some weird sonar thing on the front of it witch I have but no idea where it is.

The cam in the pic is exactly what the one my grandfather took looks like. Witch is No. 2-C Kodak Jr.

We also found a Super8 Movie Camera witch is probably with the Polaroid.

Also HUNDREDS of slides, slide projector, Projector for the Super8 film, and a few movies from around the world.

If that Konica is in good shape it's definitely worth trying out.

Old slides go for big money on eBay if you don't have a particular emotional attachment to them. My mother's always buying them.
