Ok heres the deal.

I'm trying to rescue some photos for my dad. Pictures he took during a hunting trip of a baldeagle. He hasnt been able to photograph one in decades, but seen them off in the distance in the past.

This shot was taken while inside a car with the window up, it was also raining, and the camera was zoomed to max.

It's more of a sentimental thing to him, than knowing he missed on a good conditions for a nicer shot.

I want to help fix the photos as much as possible, but kinda lost as to where to start. So I have come here to /p/ for some wise advice of the pro's on post processing ideas.

I've already told him not to expect getting a big print out of them, Im thinking of maybee doing a kind of triptych of sorts..

he has about 5 shots of this eagle, but all are of similar quality.

Boost up the contrast to get rid of the gray haze, use unsharp mask to get it a lil' sharper

I'd suggest trying to selectively de-saturate the awkward areas of red on the branches (and some spots on the eagle) as they're a bit distracting, too.

Not really a Photoshop expert when it comes to editing photos. Here's my attempt.

thanks for all the tips and examples. I too was annoyed by the cromabs on the branches and eagle. the tip on desaturating the color helped..... I think

I used silver efex pro plugin to make the tree look a little more like a birch tree, the filter seemed to fit in, and that also helped to get rid of the cromabs on the branches.

I used Tiffen DFX 2 to add a cloud diffusion to the flat rain/overcast background. the cloud effect seemed to go with the brightening/contrast adjustments to the Eagle and Tree.

some things about the picture are beyond saving, and I don't want to make it look over-processed, but then again the end result will not be viewed by a /p/ro, so I think I am allowed some margin of error.

thanks for helping. I'm not sure I'm finished with the processing, but you all have helped :)

I love you /p/...lol

pic related: its where I'm at now.

I think Im gonna make him a 10x8 triptych out of a few pictures, I still have a little tweaking to go for the final product, but this is basically what Im going to do.

This way he will get a decent size picture(which is what he wanted) and not have to blow up a single photo that probably will not look great at a larger size alone.

It's a nice idea, I'm sure he'll like it.
Flip the birds though.
One or both.
You don't want them facing out of the photo, it just doesn't look good.
Maybe make the top one looking in, and the bottom one out?
