I was thinking about saving up to get the Nikon Nikon 18-200mm with VR.

Right now I have the old 18-55 that came with my D50 and after reading Rockwell's review I think it'd be a great (albeit expensive) upgrade.

What are /p/'s thoughts?

Fucking incredible lens. It'll replace most of your lenses most of the time. Good luck finding it, though. They're out of stock everywhere, and they're showing up on ebay and craigslist for 900-1000, as opposed to the 750 MSRP.

And shit, nice shot. I love the "parabolic" lines that meet in the near-center, and that vast unbroken expanse of reflection. Very well done.

what other lenses have you got?

The 18-200mm is a good lens, but that is that.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE HYPE. As an owner i can tell you that for travel and convenience it's great, but beyond that... it's slow and absolutely awful beyond 135mm.

Don't pay a cent over MSRP for it. It's barely worth it's regular price.

Just the kit 18-55. Beyond VR, the 18-200 strikes me as being as a sharper lens than the one I have right now.

I don't really think I need anything telephoto, 18-55 has worked pretty well thus far, but it would be interesting to play around with w/o needing to swap or carry around extra lenses.
