I used to think that too... until I got a Leica.
I used to shoot mostly with Nikon cameras (and have owned a variety of Canon, Yashica, Contax, Hasselblad, Mamiya, and Rollei cameras), but a few years ago I came across a Leica M3 with a 50mm f/2 summicron for a great price. I originally bought it to resell for a profit, but made the mistake of running a roll of film through it to see. It is by far the most pleasant camera I have ever used. While I do think Leica equipment is overpriced, it is still leaps and bounds better than anything else I have ever used.
If I could afford an M8, I'd throw my D200 away in an instant.
