>>110436 colour neg film really really benefits from been over exposed by 1/3-1/2 a stop, its got fantastic latitude so it can handle it without any problems.
Kodak Gold is a great film, its just hated by elitism because its "Kodak Gold" family fun what ever... Fuji superia is Fujifilm's equivalent to Kodak's Gold, but you dont hear people hating on that as much, go figure. I have a few pro-packs of Portra 400VC, its my fave film, but too expensive for day to day shots, so i use superia 400 or Gold 400 for that with similar results (when over exposed appropriately)
I dont see how shooting slide film be more "fun", infact i find it less fun. Due to the fact i have to wait up to a week to see the results, it brings a dampening feeling. also its no where near as flexible as colour print in extreme lighting conditions, thus i find colour print more suitable for street photography than slide as you get a better yield.
With high speed films, the professional versions tend to be quite a bit better than the consumer, Portra 800 and NPZ are fantastic.
as a general rule of thumb with colour print, over expose by a 1/3 to 1/2 a stop, ie, NPC/NPS at 125.
