how is it lighted?

i see you have a 2 second exposure
>> ilkore !!rybbb5OcRVp
>>239493
the two seconds was just to give me enough time to point and fire my flash.

what kind of diffuser? bounced? details please
>> ilkore !!rybbb5OcRVp
>>239510
oh, sorry. it was actually both! flash was modded with a 6inch round reflector, which was then covered with a couple sheets of tissue paper. then it was bounced on the wall behind me.

i just took this in my bathroom.. it's crushed ice, and laundry detergent, lit with my diffused flash. firing directly down, and a black light, to make the soap glow.

i iz bored

Both of these are very well lit: good job with the flash!

On the downside, the pictures lack content that holds attention- something which you may consider adding. Perhaps show some movement or change in the scene.

Thank You!

i agree, definitely missing something to give it that extra oomph. my mind is drawing a blank on what to add though...

i have another photo like this one, i took almost a year ago, using a green laser, some diluted milk, and my psp for fill. and, it suffers from the same problem.

Maybe showing the liquid pouring or having some human interaction with the glasses.

To do this, though, you will somehow need to lessen the exposure time. What kind of set-up do you have?
>> ilkore !!rybbb5OcRVp
>>239681
unfortunately, all i have is a flash with a broken hot-shoe, a couple clamp lights, and the black light..
>> ilkore !!rybbb5OcRVp
     File :-(, x)
i ditched the ice and found a piece of plexiglass in the garage; so i put some water on it, and used it for the surface reflection. the black light, was sitting just below the camera, and my flash was held in one hand, and the cup that's was pouring the water, was in the other.

found a highlighter, and ripped it apart... fucking black light decided to die on me.. so i had to shoot this without it... which meant i was in almost complete darkness, and couldn't even tell how i was pouring the water.

I'm so confused on how the green and blue glass photographs are an eight second exposure. How are the bubbles still that sharp, and on the green, how is there no blur movement? Wouldn't you be able to see all the movement with an eight second exposure?

I know that's worded weird. I don't know how else to ask.
>> Anonymous
>>239784
Of the 8 seconds 7.9ish are complete darkness with a burst of flashlight that makes the exposure.
>> Anonymous
Hey OP can I ask how you brought out the yellow in the editted happy tree friends pic?
>> Anonymous
What did you use for the background in the glass shots?
>> Anonymous
>>239627
black light?
>> Anonymous
>>239798
another term for UV light
>> Anonymous
>>239800
ah ok. makes sense. kinda new to photography can you explain quickly about why UV is used and stuff?
>> Anonymous
>>239801
keep in mind Im not the OP nor a photo wiz myself but the detergent has phosphur in it (to make your whites whiter than white) which glows under UV light giving the effect. From what I gather the green fluid was bright enough to show up nce under a flash but a UV light woulda made the fluid show up when staging the shot
>> ilkore !!rybbb5OcRVp
>>239805
>>239801
basically, what he said. with the soap one, without the uv light, the blue would be nowhere near as vibrant... it would be more of a dull hazy blue

.>>239797
same as the happy tree friend.. a black velvet sheet.

>>239796
when doing color correcting, it helps to start thinking in color opposites.. so, if you have too much yellow, you need to add more blue. i normally just use the color balance tool, in photoshop.. but if it needs a lot of work, i'll use curves.

>>239784
yeah, i just put my flash on it's lowest(fastest) setting, and was in a pitch black room. so, the shutter was open for 8 sec. but, the actual exposure was how fast my flash can fire.. which, i have no idea what speed it was.

wow!! that one is just amazing.
you had the UV light on for this one?? or is it just flash.
Did i get you right that you mixed up the ink from a highlighter with water to get the green fluid??

yup just flash.. i still can't get the black light to work.. it just acts like it's going to work, but then it just dims down till it's off. and yeah, it was just ink from a highlighter, mixed with water..

1/5000 on full! that seems really fuckin fast.. on full this flash is pretty noticeably long..but, it's also really old too.

>> Anonymous
>>240395

Yeah I know what you mean, I was surprised when I saw it in the specs. Maybe its just our eyes not being able to react fast enough to tell its only an extremely brief flash, that makes it look longer. Not sure where on the slopes that would be measured from either, because it probably has a sharp attack, and a reasonably slow (~0.5s) decay to fully off, so it might 1/5000 to 40% brightness or something.

this all looks sweet. i've been wanting to experiment with this. can you give me some pointers on what kind of equipment to use? and how do you get the completely black background without any reflection of the lights?
>> ilkore !!rybbb5OcRVp
>>240633
try getting your bg farther away from the light source and subject, it will help to minimize the illumination of the bg.

other than that, everything else i used, is already stated above.
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
Try making a background that interacts with the image? Also all of these could be sharpened lightly for a better image.

hmmm right now it's basically a black sheet, taped to my bathroom mirror, making a cyc as it rests next to my sink. not much room to work with.. i do have a green laser, i could mess around with. or. i could try adding something in post... make it look as if there was a flash hidden, that fired onto a textured bg...

Utiliize other objects while using a shallow dof? Though that'll only really work if you have a longer lens.

Because of the flash, i have to use a small aperture.. :-( Though I'm using a long shutter speed, so I could always add in some light, with my psp... pic related.
