Sup /p/,
I think I really need a cpl, my skies are pale and gross. What do you guys use?

Worth paying more for the good stuff? Or will the basic stuff work fine?

If you've got some photos taken with a cpl, post them here!

Gah! Wow, those blues are delicious. I want to get one for my 10-22, but 77mm are all so expensive! Probably going to get one from a hong kong ebay store.

Kenko CPL 52mm
Paid 18 Euros, so it was a really cheap one, which you can see on the picture. Which I would have paid a little more but hell, it was my first one and also I did not waste to much money. It improved the look of the sky but it really could have been better.

Yeah it's the 10-22mm ef-s. All uwa lenses have ca, I think this is more pronounced because i underexposed to get some detail in the sky, then pushed it in lightroom.

I just bought a kenko pro1 cpl off ebay. It was around $65 with shipping. Pretty good deal.

Are CPLs polarizers?

CPl: Circular Polarizer

A CPL would not have been useful in this shot anyway, they tend to give bad results with ultrawide lenses. You end up with half the sky polarized and dark, then a sharp dividing line and the rest of the sky normal.

I kind of like that though. I recall vincent having some really cool photos that had that uneven polarizing (Maybe i'm mistaking the person). Anyway, 77mm fits onto 24-105 f4 so i'll be using it anyway when the uneven skies get boring.

I really like that photo, you should go back and take another one when the sky is nicer though.

Yeah, i havn't bought the 24-105 yet, but i'm really looking towards it. Any reason i should pick up the 24-70 2.8 instead? I borrowed my cousin's 24-105, and i was just amazed that i could hand hold a shot at 105mm at 1/20. IS is a pretty cool guy...

The A700 is fail, but I'd wager that Zeiss glass is pretty nice.

>>180493

I don't own either, but I've shot with them. The 24-105's advantages are another 35mm (of course,) that it's smaller, and the only continuous zoom lens I can honestly say I've enjoyed shooting with, which I can't explain because the whole zoom ethos thing just doesn't gel well with me.

The 24-70/2.8 gets you a very useful stop, and is a better lens overall, in terms of the way it draws the picture and the bokeh. It's a noticably larger and heavier lens, though.

In some shots you can consider photoshop. This one may be a little tricky as the sky texture is different on the right and the colour loss not uniform. I doubt a filter would've had a great difference.

Simple technique is:
1. duplicate the image on a new layer.
2. Set the top layer to color burn.
3. Create a new layer mask and fill with black.
4. Paint the sky with white or more advanced, color select the blues and fill with white.
5. feather the sky into the foreground
6. Adjust % transparency.

As seen here...
