Hey /p/, really random question here.

I got a camera a while ago for taking pictures of random shit, my friends, birthday parties, family get-togethers that sort of thing.

My lady friend was over the other day and she was playing on the camera and tried to take a mirror picture, like a myspace one. The flash made it so you couldn't even see her, but when we turned it off the picture was too blurry to make anything out. I've been trying to figure it out cause it's sparked my curiosity as to how come every random teenager can take a photo in a mirror but I can't figure out how, but I can't get it.

Is there a way to fix this?

Yes, it's too dim. To get a properly-exposed picture, the camera needs so much light to hit the sensor. If it's too dark, it compensates by keeping the shutter open for longer. Unfortunately, if the camera moves while the shutter's open, the image from slightly different angles hits the sensor and you get blur.

And I don't care how stable you think your hand is, it's gonna move, especially if you're lit by a bathroom light.

To help explain what you can do to mitigate this, I'll need to know what kind of camera you're using.

Okay, see if you can increase the ISO setting. R your proverbial FM if it's not obvious. Might not be possible at all.

If you can't do that, get yourself a tripod or give up your dream of taking shitty myspace mirror pics.

Yes, there is.

Go outside, in the early morning or late afternoon, with your lady friend. Hold the camera, point it at her. Press the shutter.

Everything is fixed, from the shitty nature of the [desired] result to the lack of any usable result at all.

Congratulations. On the totem pole of life, you now are officially beneath the average myspace user. Your parents must be proud.
