try somewhere between cave and surface of the sun.
>> Anonymous
Looks like your ringflash is too small.
>> NGT !!coI61nFsZNd
>>171241

I shoot raves that are pitch black inside or erratic lighting. So...how about no?
>> Anonymous
>>171239

what the fuck are you using that you can only go dark cave or front on blast
>> NGT !!coI61nFsZNd
>>171243

I made a bigger one but the top area doesn't get bright enough...

>>171245
ok stop using a diy ringflash just because you think its totally neato then. use something that works better for what youre doing.

rofl way to miss the whole point

These results look exactly like what I'd expect from a cheap macro ring flash.

It's obvious that you need a LOT more light.
Which method did you use to make it?

Hmmm...
Do you have more flashes?
A 2 or 3-flash variant might cast more light...

But if you don't already have the flashes at that point you might as well just buy an ABR800.

>>171256

uh then play with the output instead of going dark cave or surface of the sun.

I use a super old manual flash, it has been a pain in the ass to find a happy medium...

A ring flash is perfect for the rave atmosphere. Helps make people not look as cracked out as they really are. Big ass pupils? No problem...
>> Anonymous
>>171273
but guess what, a normal flash will do the same thing. it doesnt really matter anyway since youll be taking the picture before their pupil has time to close. you obviously know nothing about why one would use a ringflash.

learn to control your exposure when using a flash

I'll bite, what is acceptable?
>> pskaught !zkraGArAss
yeesh, you have a lot of greasy friends.
nice work on the diy, but I feel like it should maybe be wider or do something to spread the light lower. Its all going to the forehead.
>> NGT !!coI61nFsZNd
>>171285
I think the forehead hotspotting is a result of the angle at which Im holding that thing. It has to be held at an angle, plus Im 6'5" makin it interesting. I'm super close to the subject also, so I can get the biggest possible ring...

Heres a shot with the giant ring flash I made, gives like a U in the eye..

you use it to create really even lighting, especially when you are close to the subject since when you are far away its easier to use other lighting methods to get the even lighting. NOTE: i said especially.

its good lighting for when doing macro shots because its right on the lens and you can easily light up the subject without having weird shadows everywhere. its also good for portrait shots if you actually have some time to control the light, since thats kind of the whole point of using a ringflash.

Actually isn't the whole point that you don't have to waste time dicking around with lights?

well i was thinking along the lines that you still need to do something to the other lighting if theres too much. not necessarily adding more, but removing it depending on what youre going for. if the lighting is too strong it would overpower the ringflash and make it hard to get the even lighting. you could stop down and make the flash really powerful, but then you lose other things by doing that.
