So I heard from a friend that you can get your megapixels increased for like 50 bucks. I just bought an a-200 and I want to do this, but I went to Wal-mart and asked if they could do this and they just looked at me funny. So I ask you /p/, where can I get this done?

you get a magic marker, and on the glass part of the lens - put a dot right in the middle. The sensor will adjust to this focal length every time and increase its pixel range.

But make sure its right in the center, too much to either side and your ratio will be slightly distorted

But wouldn't that put a black dot on my pictures?

who's your friend? punch him in the face, cause he's an idiot.

then punch yourself in the face, for having such an idiot friend in the first place.

This is frowned on by many photographers because of the slight effective decrease in your aperture precision. But, if you want a quick and dirty do-it-yourself megapixel increase, this little hack is fine.

God Lord, this is some old, obscure copypasta.

I need to lurk less.

it's much better to take the lens off, flip up the mirror (set the camera to a manual exposure and a 5 second shutter or so then hit the release) and put the dot in the middle of the sensor. Be careful though, it'll screw with your white balance if you put it too far off-centre, but you'll get at least a 50% boost in pixel resolution if you do it right. This way you don't have to do this for every lens you own.

They don't do this at the factory cause it slows down the AF tracking and can confuse the meter, but it's no problem if you're not shooting sports or something.
