No. However, the polarizer will help protect your lens a bit from scratches, etc. (Though for protection-only, you can get a UV filter and leave that on)
The polarizer is very handy but it is something you should really only attach when you know you need it. Keep in mind that having the polarizer attached will reduce your light by 1-2 stops, and you (or your camera) will have to compensate, usually with a longer exposure.
