Street with a DSLR? Anonymous
Ok, so am a LONG time fan of street photography, I've just moved back to my home town and want to document the people in it (you get some real interesting people here.... most violent drunks but hey).

Am wondering.... I know the ideal set up is a leica with a wide angle 28mm lens (or from what i read)... Is it as possable with a bulky slr?

I have a Pentax K10D, and love it to bits.... I cant afford to grab a good range finder and lens for it... Is it posable with such a chunky camera? Or am i just asking to be mugged?

Fail, too long for a normal, too short for a medium tele.

The 31, 21, or 35 is what you want.

Pentax makes pancakes in 40mm and 21mm sizes, I believe. They are incredibly expensive, but supposedly have great quality (like all Pentax lenses).

I've been thinking about a similar idea and from what I've seen, the following lenses would work best:
Sigma 10-20mm
Pentax 12-24mm
Pentax 21mm
Pentax 24mm
Pentax 14mm

My definition of expensive is >$300. I really need to get used to this whole "spending all your money on some pieces of glass" thing.

Yes, it's possible.

You could try one of the cheap russian knock off rangefinders. Sure, they're no leica, but for $20 you cant go wrong.

Just had a quick look on ebay.. found me a Zorki 4k.. any good?

And how do you go about using them? as I wont be getting a manual?

I mean, how do you focus if turning the focus ring on the lens dosnt show in the rang finder?

10mm? It's a fucking 80mm with a 1.5 crop, do the fucking math. It's a damn portrait lens.

40 * 1.5 = 60

heres the manual:

I've personally never used the 4k, but I know that the only things the Russians have going for them are their cameras, guns, and alcohol. I've read reviews of FED, Zorki, and KMZ cameras, and they're decent. If it breaks, you can easily replace it with another.

the lenses are really what you have to hope for with the Russian cameras. Quality control isn't very good on them though, so some end up being absolutely wonderful and comparable to their Leica or Zeiss counterparts where other ones are completely misaligned and are pretty much glass paperweights.

Go for the Zorki though. They're cheap enough that its worth it to risk getting a junk camera, because if it is you can just sell it to a hipster as a vintage soviet camera and they'll jump on it.
