I'm having a hard time getting this image to look "balanced" to me. I like the orange glow of the fires on the right contrasted with the blue of the sky...

Any suggestions?

Balanced and rule of thirds conflict -> DOES NOT COMPUTE?

Actually, did you crop this? Do you have an image that is "aimed" more to the right?

Actually, it is cropped, but I only removed foreground, trimming the bottom. The left and right are as far as the original goes.

I guess I was thinking more about light balance - I'm on the fence if this is too bright. Should I let the colors speak for themselves, or retain more details?

I'd perform a bit of noise reduction on it (you don't have any really critical details) and leave it as is.

Any recommendations on noise reduction? In the past, I've used GIMP Selective Gaussian Blur with varying results. Sadly, I can't afford a big expensive software suite and don't feel like stealing one...

Thanks again.

what annoys me is how it sorta looks like two seperate images.

theres a weird sorta blur between the right rock and the land going into the water. i think it may be the hard to see horizon :S

Nice shot...

I'd work with a tighter cropping, and not be afraid to add a little more brightness and saturation.

Perhaps zoom in to 40-50mm next time and manually set focus to infinity (I find that it sometimes helps with night shots at a distance)

Thanks.

I decided similarly, and upped the contrast and cropped out more of the foreground. I'm happier with this one, which is also a bit closer to the original (the original was on the dark side.)

If something, anything, was in focus; that shot would be sex.
>> Anonymous
The lack of focus in this makes me want to cry. It has the potential to be a really incredible shot, but the excessive blur kills it.

Also, tighten in more on the right side of the shot.

feels like im focused on NOTHING AT ALL

OP here.
Sadly, I agree ;_;
There was a lot of mist/haze so I didn't realize how badly I was focused at the time. Lesson learned for next time.

OP: 203177 here again,
Umm.. silly question, but did you take other shots at different exposure times? (like one at 15 seconds) Perhaps one of those would be in better focus and more salvageable.

That's Cannon Beach on the Oregon coast right? I shot this picture of mine in Manzanita just south of there.

greycstoration is a great GIMP noise reduction plugin.

they put it in plugins>enhance, not noise. go figure.
