I just watched a video called "Advanced Photo Resizing" that blew me away. http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1772009

Does anyone know when this is going to be available?

AT first I thought OP was being sarcastic. How could a video about resizing be anything but dull. Than I watched it.... OMFG that looks incredible. I wonder how long it will take for this stuff to get into mainstream use.

I actually thought it was going to be one of those shock things until I googled it and found a youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIFCV2spKtg

I was wondering why you didn't post either the researcher's own site or at least the youtube version, or even the slashdot article from like two days ago

seriously, collegehumor?

I could see how it could be useful, especially for graphics people, but in photography I can see two problems:

1. Artistic portrayal. You know media whores are going to want to resize images in this way for all display sizes. It's not the same. It looks realistic, but it's not the scene the photographer captured.

2. Creative process. I'm all for editing of a reasonable sort, but there's something to be said for the sort of craftwork that goes into making a photograph the traditional way, whether in digital or on film. For many, this will replace composition and that "select the plane of focus in post-processing" thing we discussed in another thread will replace focusing.

Came across it through Stumbleupon. Really, I never go to college humor under normal circumstances. Saw the post date, saw that is was fairly recent, and knew that it was probably on several dozen other video/social networking sites.
