I need a dslr, and I've shot Nikon for ages. I'm considering the d80 cause it'll take my older lenses. One thing I did hear is that Nikons don't shoot full framed images. I've always hated Canons but now theres a small chance I might get one instead, and have to build up another lens collection over time. Tell me what you know.

if you have some more money go with the nikon d90 instead of the d80. (honestly).

the second thing.
d40-d300 R DX cameras
canon 1000 - 50d r DX camera

nikon full frame = d3, d700
canon full frame 5d,5d mark2,1d series

o and one more thing
dont worry about full frame
if you R plannig to buy on later a FF *full frame) camera all your lenses will be working fine on them just as on the d80/d90/d200 except the d40 and d60 (which dosnt have a built in AF motor)

The D80 is a fantastic camera, I use it. You'll get a closeout price on one new if you find one. There's still a good amount of stock on new D80's in a lot of stores.

The D90 is even better, so if you're not worried too much about cash, go for that.

Don't worry about full-frame sensors, they're expensive and reserved for the "high end" digital SLR', such as Nikon's D3 and new D700, Canon's 1Ds and 5D series, and Sony's new a900.

*sigh*

i thought we'd been over the whole FF/no FF thing.

FF is a scam. APS-C can produce images that are just as good. Also, Pentax doesn't produce any 'LOL FULL FRAME' lenses aside from their Limited series, and those can almost be counted on one hand.

Please, get real. Pentax's market isn't full frame, and it doesn't need to be for them to be successful. Granted, they are sure hurting for a success sooner than later. Hoya is sure not going to give them infinite leeway.

Maybe in a few years, depending on how things go, pentax might make a full frame body, but it'd be more for 'LOL LOOK WE DID IT' reasons rather than the fact that anyone really needs it.

Motherfucking Best Buy. They raised the price by 50. 50 fucking dollars.

Ok, faggot, tell me. Who does need a full frame body?

Please explain to me – with all the great wisdom that befits a fat, sweaty, bearded man such as yourself – which of the hobbyist/amateur photographers that the Pentax brand specifically targets that needs a fucking full-frame camera?

Not me, not you, now get out of my fucking thread.

FF isn't about resolution or better sharpness. It's about fucking focal lengths and using existing lenses without them being tele as fuck. Next time understand the reason for FF before saying it's a scam.

>and using existing lenses without them being tele as fuck

This makes sense if you're already financially or emotionally invested in a lens or lenses, but if that's not the case, what's the matter with using a 35 instead of a 50? People used 50s instead of 80s, etc.

honestly, the one thing that makes me really dislike my d300 is the lack of wide angle. my 18-55 is sharp as a tack, but it's slow. i'm sure as hell not going to dish out the grand for a 2.8 DX lens, so i'm basically stuck with third party offerings.

There's an 18/2.8 Nikkor.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ

still don't want to spend a grand.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ

unless it's really worth it, of course. i'd go for the 14-24 in a second if i had the money.
>> Anonymous
>>286235i'm sure as hell not going to dish out the grand for a 2.8 DX lens

which are you talking about

the 14-24 is 2.8 but isn't DX, and is $1,500
the 12-24 is 4.0 and DX and is $900
the tokina 11-16 is 2.8 and DX, and is $570
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ

the 14-24 2.8 that just came out. if i had the scrill, it would be mine.

the 12-24 dx is too expensive, and it's the widest lens that nikon makes for crop.

so i'm stuck with third party, like tamron's 17-50 2.8 or the 10-20 that they all make.
>> Anonymous
why don't you just get the 17-55 2.8

it will still work on full frame at half resolution, 6 mp is still fine

FWIW Vincent has the sigma 10-20 + d200 and he speaks highly of it. I have the tokina 11-16 + d80 and I have no complaints. The zoom range is a joke but beyond that... Many don't understand why anyone would want to stop down to F2.8 with an ultrawide, but it sure has come in handy for shooting bands/skateboard photography.

"i'm sure as hell not going to dish out the grand for a 2.8 DX lens"

why not, you can still use it on any future nikon bodies
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ

because i shoot a lot of film still, so i'd rather spend the money on something that would work with it.
>> Anonymous
DX will mount on film bodies

you got no aperture ring but it still works fine, with some darkening around the edges
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ

i've tried it. wide angle has massive vignetting. my 18-55 is like looking through a peep hole in a door.
