28-135 or speedlite first?? Anonymous
o.. all thy holy gods of /p/..
please help me, for the moment i have only one lens which is the 18-55 IS kit for my canon rebel camera. would it be better to buy a 28-135 lens or a speedlite? and what type of speedlite should i buy to be able to do stuff like that fancy strobist without having to sell my ass to slavery..

oh thank you god of /p/ for kindly listen to my question

Do you even know how to use your kit lens?

OP here, see the thing i love the most is fashion and street photography, i dont like shooting sceneries or building to be honest.. so i think 28-135 would be good for taking candid, isnt it?
orr should i just buy the speedlite + 50mm 1,8 instead??

Depends on your style. Personally I'd get just a 28mm, 50mm, and something a touch longer, assuming you mean digital. (If not, a 50 and 85 is fine, too). But that's me, and you shouldn't follow my example if you want your stuff to look like typical fashion photography at all. For that you do need a flash and longish to long lenses.

Oh, and fashion and street skew radically differently. Street is usual no flash, wide to normal, fashion is usually flash, rarely normal, usually pretty long.

Fuck it all and find your own style and the equipment that lets you get it.

The 28-135 would be good for fashion and candid shots... But I wouldn't call candid shots street photography... For that, you really have to be in the scene, to make it work. So I'd get a relatively fast prime. Something like the 28 f2.8 or the 28 f1.8

Get the speedlite 430ex and make sure you get an ex or else it wont do ttl metering.

Depends what you want to do. I'd be getting a relatively wide prime (28 is good). I have the 28-135, it produces really nice quality and obviously has a versatile range, but it is bloody heavy and extends when pointed at pretty much any downward angle.

This man be correct. Learn to use your kit lens. 430EX. Lighting over lenses, bitch.
