ive got an olympus E-510 and im lookin to get a new lens

my question is should i get the 70-300mm F4-5.6 or the 50mm F2?

i was leaning towards the 70-300 being that i only have the 42-150 or whatever lens but as ive been reading around here ive read alot about getting a 50mm is a good idea for learning general composition techniques and what not so im kind of stuck. they are both around the same price depending on where i look like a 20-50 buck difference so thats not really a problem once i get a job(im 16)...

for help i give you Old Man Walkin Into Wal-Mart

fuck you.

decide which range you want and buy that lens.

you cant just throw up 2 lens choices and say HAI /p/ CHOSE FOR ME without giving us any other details.

but i'm willing to bet that you'd be better off spending that money on hookers and drugs. just throw away your camera...

A 50mm lens is good for film. On your camera, it works like a 100mm lens would on film.

Look for some lens that's between 20mm and 30mm. Leica makes an extremely expensive 25/1.4 for you, if you've got the money.

Between those two lenses, the 50/2 would still be better for most applications, though. More versatile.

not a tough choice.

you can compensate for lack of wide angle/telephoto in most situations with a little bit of footwork. but there are not a lot of things you can do to make up for a slow lens (that won't affect the quality or compromise a shot). plus, primes are usually a bit sharper since they are simpler to make compared to zooms.

Bear in mind that the 50mm is a telephoto on most DLSRs, four thirds especially.

i was leaning towards the 50, it seems to be the must have lens. a 300 though would fill up my newly ordered bag quite nicely though lol

GET THE 11-22 IT'S AWESOME

what do you want to shoot, anyway?

ZD 50/2 is very good for portraits, sharp at all apertures and with pleasing bokeh. It's also decent as macro if you don't need massive magnification. On the downside, the AF is slow and noisy as hell - probably the worst of all Olympus lenses - and tends to hunt a lot on all cameras except E-3.

I haven't used the 70-300, but owners say it's very decent optically, but the construction is cheap (zoom creep, etc.)

By Leica standards, the 25/1.4 is, like, super cheap lol.

do lecia lenses work on Olympus?

>>127960
Leica D series - yes, full functionality
Leica R series - yes with adapter, no autofocus because they're manual focus lenses, may have to meter stopped down
Leica M and LTM - no infinity focus, even if you can find an adapter

Clearly you're not cool enough to deserve superior German engineering.

Fix'd.

Also, focus confirmation on all manual lenses requires a modchip.
