Hey /p/, I'd ask /g/ but this is the only place where people who actually know shit about the subject can and might comment on this. I want to get a point and shoot camera, and Fry's is offering the camera in the picture for the price pictured. I can't tell for certain that this is the camera, but it is the Canon A570IS? I'm basing this on the megapixel count, optical/digital zoom, and overall body/shape of the images( although they might have been idiots and just used a stock image of a Canon camera, at this quality. Is this the Canon A570IS, or is it something else?

Also, is this a good point-and-shot camera? This will be my only camera for at least 5 months, when I MIGHT be able to get a low-end DSLR. I'm thinking that this would serve as a good point-and-shoot, which could help me with my current "old as hell" SLR camera so that I can still experiment with SLRs without wasting film each time. At the same time, I want to be sure that I'm getting a camera with a good form factor so that I feel comfortable with this in my backpack or in my pocket( basically a camera that is convenient and inconspicuous).

Thanks for your help.

You're getting a Canon Powershot A-series. That should be enough to know. I bought an A520 and since then the A-series has only gotten better. The specs have changed only slightly really, but the sensors are pretty good in quality. For 147, it's a good buy if you're looking for a digital p&s and you don't have one yet.

Is the fact that it uses AA batteries a serious drawback to this deal?

Thanks. I'm pretty excited about this now. The last camera that I had was a Sanyo Xacti( if you've never heard of it before, there's a reason), which I lost in an equally unknown train station in Austria when I was in Europe. Since then I've been stuck( read: fucked) with my cell phone camera.

You just bought yourself the best you can get for that price. There's a hacked firmware that'll give you programming / bracketing / RAW / motion detection / etc etc.

Just got ported to the 570 IS as well.
