The only way I'd get this camera is if it were no more than $100 bucks, or better yet, for free. Kiss my ass $8000 body only. I'm still workin on gettin a 40D.

meh

you can pick up mk 1 and 2 for less than $2,000

or a brand spanking new 5d for the same price

but some of us are probably happy to stick with aps-c for a long time
>> I||ICIT !!mknjFN/v/49

lol so your saying youd rather pay ~1150USD for a 40D vs 100 for a series. flawed argument ;)

but yea, im the same i simple cant justify 8K on hobby, or even if i worked it as a job, id rather try with a 5d for convenience or if i needed it for the MP id be using a digital back MF camera...
>> Anonymous
full frame is great but it just "doubles" up any flaws you make or the lens or camera have

aps-c will just keep on improving nr so it will be a non-issue

Even if I won the money in a competition or lottery I know there are better ways to spent it, even for luxuries too. It's a long way off or never for me.
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m
/agree, if I ahd the money I'd buy a kickass film 'blad setup. or ebtter yet, studio lights. or better yet, build a shed in the back yard as a studio.

If you want full frame and a good pixel count, the 5D is affordable.

>>138567

What the hell are you talking about? Compare the noise on a 5D to the noise on 40D at full size (1 to 1 pixels). The 5D is still way ahead.

And full frame is going to get worse or what?
>> Anonymous
>>138567

Doubles up how?
>> Anonymous
>>138606

full frame will still be at a premium

>>138609

you get the full imaging circle of the lens, when it used to be cropped when using crop cameras

mistakes are a lot more glaring, it's less forgiving

>>138668

those are like, 100 to 150 dpi

it's very rare that a printer will actually go 300
>> Anonymous
>>138667
NatGeo requires only a six megapixel minimum file size of its shooters.
>> Anonymous
>>138676

eh

i just remembered reading about how they've moved up to 300 dpi a while ago

so while the photo submitted are only 6 mp, the artwork itself is at 300 dpi

or maybe i'm just thinking of the cover
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
>>138678

even if it's at 300 dpi the 40D could still manage, unless natgeo started printing 11 X 14 issues that i don't know about.
>> Anonymous
>>138678
Don't know, but a six megapixel file can pull 300 DPI easy, and I've always heard the Geographic's minimum is six megapixels, though I'm sure that's negotiable with their regulars for smaller, not-full-page prints.
>> Warren !WSxruxpIJs
>>138676
Just because you can get away with it doesn't make it the right thing to do. If you're going to print it, it's always better to have as high an available resolution as you can. Why do you think advertising was shot primarily on 4x5 and 8x10 up until very recently? You can shoot a perfume ad on 35mm, but that doesn't make it the best choice. More res is better.
>> Anonymous
what's the size of it anyway?

i'm sure every pixel counts when you're doing a full spread

you've got less room to crop with 10 mp and if you do, you've just lost a large chunk of resolution

but for the record, i'm not>>138661

Yeah, but it'll be improving, too. When us APS-C guys are shooting a noiseless ISO1600, the full frame chips will be shooting noiseless ISO6400.

>you get the full imaging circle of the lens, when it used to be cropped when using crop cameras

From what I've read, full-frame still comes out ahead quality-wise when you compare two shots taken with the same lens. Read up on resolution as it applies to lenses rather than sensors, and consider that the lens doesn't have to resolve quite as finely to match up with the larger pixels on a full-frame SLR. It more than makes up for the loss of corner sharpness that you get from taking the whole image circle rather than just a 1.5x crop.

>From what I've read, full-frame still comes out ahead quality-wise when you compare two shots taken with the same lens.

from what I've seen it's ever so subtle.
out of curiosity i would like to see a 100% crop of a 40D shot vs 5D. (at ISO 100, same lens.. same shot, etc)
someone in /p/, deliver please!

5D versus 40D? 5D was launched over two and a half years ago, 40D just over a half.
This compare should be done with 1Ds mkIII, not with 5D.

it's pretty interesting to see that such an old camera still has quite and edge over the 40d.
>> Anonymous
>>138848

I have a 40D and my brother has a 5D. For high ISO noise, the 5D is still way ahead.

I would almost go to the point to say that at 100% crop, the noise on the 40D is barely better than my original Digital Rebel.
>> Anonymous
>>138970
There actually has been very little progress in terms of real sensor noise since the first CMOS-vased DSLRs. A semi-fossilized D60 is almost good as the new 40D/450D at high sensitivities if you apply the same processing.
>> Anonymous
>>138983
CMOS-based. Damn typos.
>> Anonymous
>>138983

I suppose I should be grateful that at least it didn't get WORSE due to the higher pixel density, but I had still hoped it would get something like a stop better.

Still perfectly happy with the 40D, just being wishful. :)

My canon shooting friends like the 5D over the pro cameras because the 5D lacks the battery grip. Yes, lacks it.

They put black gaffers tape over the logo and the red rings on their lenses, make it look shitty, and breath a little easier when they go into dicey places to do reportage. And let me tell you, a taped up, scuffed up 5D looks like a real shitbox. Mission accomplished.
