Got back from skiing in Santa Fe today to find this little surprise in my facebook inbox. Discuss!

If I do it, I'll need some studio lighting, even if it's only two strobes and softboxes. What's the most economical way to approach taking some high class nudie photos?

MERRY CHRISTMAS, ME!

This is her with clothes on, btw. Back from long, long ago, when I knew so very, very little.

this girl reminds me of a Aphex Twin music video called "Windowlicker"

youtube it and you'll understand.

Why blur her name if you're gonna make it that easy to find out who she is? It took me 2 min on fb to look up the both of you.

I just like testing out my google- & fb-fu every once in a while. She's cute, but not really my type. Just make sure she stays away from the Duchenne smile when you're snapping shots of her; it makes her eyes look too squinty.

I haven't done nudes exactly, but a scantily clad woman, yes. I had a Nikon SB25 and a Vivitar 285HV and no soft boxes (im poor) I went to walmart and got bedsheets as backgrounds ($2.50 a pop), a little bit of duct tape, a light stand and a $6 pocket tripod for the strobes. Overall the lighting turned out great, I needed more width on my background -lesson learned, and the girl loved her pictures.

If you still need to soften the light, I found that a couple of layers of wax paper diffuse the light pretty well.

her face made me cry. too many shadows on the face.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
>>104288
The wax paper sounds like a good idea. May want to stay away from full power blasts though, I bet you'd melt that wax pretty fast... it's cheap though, so I may give it a shot.

Does anyone know where I could find some decent lighting diagrams for this sort of thing? Again, I'm going for a less is more mentality.

make some soft boxes, pick up some china balls and 150-200w bulbs. got any dimmers in your house rated for 200W? great, now you need some stands. OR there is the ol' bright window. and if you want to spice it up hevilly diffused flash.

MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL:
Keep the light soft if its hitting her face. NO SHADOWS ON THE FACE! NO SHADOWS!!! NONE! light both eyes!

if you do use the light from a window thing pick up some poster board if you don't have a photoflex.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
>>104300
God bless you sir. I'm taking notes. And fortunately I do have a photoflex, with like five billion different covers. Or four, whatever.

excellent, so you have the silk insert/core too. there's your most important piece. Use some cardboard or something to make several disks outof it.

what lenses do you have, I prefer the 70-200 for pretty ladies, or just something on the longer side. It flattens the face out a little and you can get that shallow DoF that always look nice.

post the SFW results.
Be a man and don't be afraid to get close to her, just try not to get a boner. Unless she wants a boner, then, you'll be living out all my fantasies sir.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
>>104310
If I go the environmental route, it'll be the 80-200 f/2.8 all the way. I've also got a 50 1.8 and an 85 1.4 that'll be getting some love too. I'll bring along my Mamiya for some black and white stuff, just for kicks.

I hadn't even thought of making multiple disks myself. Bravo!

I'm not afraid of getting close, just afraid of getting in my own light. I figure that's the main reason I need to work out the lighting diagram ahead of time, so I know where I can shoot from, feasibly.

His SD card died. Unlike most of you basement-dwelling virgins, I have an actual job, and I like his photos, so I decided to become an art patron and get him a new one.

new mexifag here. how was santa fe? you have family there?
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
unfortunately no... I have a best friend (also a /b/tard) in Albuquerque that I visited while I was there, but we were just there to visit galleries and go skiing. I brought my Pentax K1000 on the slopes, since I was a bit scared of breaking my dSLR. Didn't shoot too many rolls out of monetary limitations, but I made up for it by making every frame count. I'm going to get the C41 stuff (Superia 100) developed in a few minutes, so I'll post scans in a bit. The Velvia gets to wait until I get back to my pro lab in Austin.

Have you been to the Monroe Gallery, or the Masters of Photography Gallery? They're both AMAZING. Monroe represents basically all photojournalist work, and it's simply astounding. They had lots of Friedlanders, some Bourke-White, and some really cool Schapiro prints. MoP was also mindblowing... I saw a few Ansel Adams prints (including Moonrise Over Hernandez, fuck yeah), a lot of Leibovitz, some Elliott Erwitt, a Steichen.... god, it was just awesome for photography. I only went into one gallery that only had shitty HDR landscapes, so I count this trip a success.

You didn't read her correctly. She says "How much would you flip if I told you I WANTED TO TAKE EROTICA PHOTOS"

SHE WANTS TO TAKE THEM, she does not want you to take them of her.

yeah, new mexico's pretty fucking hip when it comes to older photographers and obscure artists living in self-imposed exile. i've mentioned before on /p/ that i live about 8 minutes away from joel peter-witkin. unm is a great photo school, etc. etc. etc.

you come to new mexico often? we should shoot if you ever get back to albuquerque. kind of a pointless offer since i'm legion right now, but you never know.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
>>104798
Holy fucking shit, Witkin lives near you? Do you lock your doors at night? He's one scary motherfucker. But that's really cool.

I've been toying with the idea of going to UNM for graduate school, since from all I've heard, it has a terrific graduate photography program. I'll post advance warning next time I'll be in New Mexico, for sure. But I doubt it'll be anytime soon. :(
