so /p/ got my D80 now, I had the choice of getting it with the 18-55 VR + 50mm prime or a 18-135

I chose the 18-55 VR + prime.

no

should have got 18-200
>> Anonymous
Dude why? It's the crappiest lens around... rather have a 50 mm 1.8/1.4 prime than a 18-200 mm with an effective range from 45 mm- 105mm

18-105 VR and the new 50mm AF-S f/1.4 would have been the better choice.

OP here, plan is to get a SB 600 next and a battery grip then save up for a tasty zoom lense and prime

>>270547
no need to wait for af-s lens if he has d80

>>270569
will the cheap f1.8 AF with the D80
>> Project !dashI8UpO.

Skip the battery grip. Get an SB-600 then a 70-300 f/4-5.6 (non VR cause it's cheaper) and you'll have the set I'm still aiming for. ;_;

The new AF-S 50mm has a new optical design, probably will outperform the old non AF-S 50mm.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0809/08092201nikkor_50mm_1_4glens.asp

>Headlining the new features is a built-in Silent Wave Motor which enables autofocus with the D60/D40x/D40 DSLRs, but the lens also boasts a brand-new optical system with 8 elements in 7 groups for improved image quality, a circular aperture diaphragm for more attractive background blur, and a barrel design which does not change length on focusing.

unrelated to the thread, but is it really necessary to have all three of those (outdated) bodies? you could probably sell them all for good prices and get yourself a nice new body and maybe some lenses to boot
>> Anonymous
>>270596
My N90s does not.

>>270602
Not really. Even D2Xs are going for well under 1500 now, imagine what those three are worth. He'd be lucky if he could get enough for a D300, and all it'd really offer over his current bodies would be resolution.

>>270615
yeah but still, why does he need 3 bodies??
he could pick up some nice lenses and improve his shots a lot more than having lolpro backup bodies could

Seeing how poor the matrix meter has become in the D80 (it requires constantly varying levels of compensation) I intend to try center weighted metering. With my intimate knowledge of the Zone System, it might let me nail the correct exposures more quickly. That would be a big step backwards; center weighting went obsolete in the mid 1980s then the Matrix meter was invented.

ken rockwell is not entirely correct. exposure is subjective. there is no 'right' and 'wrong'

maybe he doesn't like swapping lenses in the field?
