The Great Debate Anonymous
Im interested in what /p/ thinks.

Does /p/ like Canon better? or Nikon? Or does /p/ not like one more than the other.

What are your reasons for liking wich, or feeling indifferent?

Also lets see some pics /p/ has taken with their nikons or canons.

i like canon better, because thats what i have.

if you dont like it I dont really care.

post some DSLR pics and i bet you cant tell the difference.

I have a Canon 400D, but I've used Nikon cameras and they feel better in my hands because they are generally bigger. The 40D Canon cameras are about the same size though.

You can't use old lenses on Canon DSLRs, you can with Nikon DSLRs (lenses with manual focus etc.)

Canon has an exellent sensor cleaning system. I don't know about Nikon.

Canon because I prefer the ergonomics. Plus all the Nikon owners I have known were tools. Pic related.

You are all gearfags.

I do miss my Nikon d200 with 17mm-55mm Nikor lens. However I traded it for a Cambo large format system and a couple lenses. I would have a picture of it but I don't have a camera to take a picture of it with.

The trick is composition. Bad composition on even the best camera will make it look really bad. I have taken good pictures with crappy old point and shoot digital cameras.

The questions are,
-Are you going to make huge prints with the pictures you take.
-Are you going to get them professionally printed larger than 8.5" x 11"
-do you plan to sell them as art?

If not then don't waste your money with a dslr.

>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>228837
I can think of several more reasons to get a DSLR over a p&s than that...namely, lens options and control over the camera. Manual on most p&s cameras is a terrible pain to use because they're not designed to be used that way.

I agree with you that composition is the most important thing, but the camera does play a role in allowing you to maximize it

shit, i lost my post somehow..
but i basically said the same things.
fun with lenses and more (and quicker) control over the outcome of a shot
those are the reasons i upgraded from point and shoot to dSLR

canon.
why?
canon's are more comfortable to hold. ive tried and tried to use a Nikon D40 and D70 on multiple occasions but i cant get my head around them. canons are so much easier.
That and Nikon and Nikonfags are gay.
>> Anonymous
Nikon because the bodies are built sturdier and the somehow cheaper. D80 is about the same with the 450D in terms of price and the D80 is better.

Though I agree, Nikon low end is shit and Canon P&S's are godly.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s

I'm 1% of /p/, yeah right. There are way less than 100 of us here.

Anyway, i prefer Canon.
>> Anonymous
>>228852canon's are more comfortable to hold
Hilarity ensues.
>> Anonymous
For me also, Canon's are a lot more comfortable to hold besides the grip. (which suck on Nikon too)

The button layout is just so simple, but yet comprehensive. I hated using the D300 because the WB and ISO buttons are on the top left like in Canon 1-series. For me, that sucks.

The image quality between the D300 and 40D were pretty even. D200 was much worse and usually i didnt use larger iso speeds than 800.

Ps. I used to have the 40D, but it sucked. It has a lot of stupid little mistakes and i hate seeing that on a camera (for example changing the af-on and * buttons would make it effective also on image review, fucking stupid) .... Thus i got a 5D and couldn't be happier. It's just the camera for ME. Waiting for my 70-200 2.8 IS for it.

nikon, because i own one.
but that doesnt mean my next camera wont be a canon.
i dont like arguing this argument, its like the "more megapixels = a better picture"
12.1 is plenty for me thanks. 6000 iso is nice too.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
I like Nikon better, but I have a Canon 5D because I crave full-frame. But I use Nikon lenses?

I'm confusing.
>> Anonymous

enjoy the next 5D that will have 40D ergonomics and button layout.
>> sage sage
I like Canon, because it's what I shoot.

If I had Nikon, I'd probably like it just as much.

They both take nice photos.

Nuff said.

This man has put it correctly.
It really depends on what you start on.

>>229012
I actually started with a Yashica back in 1991 and by 1995 i got a Nikon and didnt like it at all. Since 1996 i've been a canon photographer. They make rough, simple cameras that dont have all the "bling" as Nikon, but they sure dont feel quirky and toy-like.

Nikon D200 and D300 definitely felt like toys and while D3 sure was an improvement, but that's all one except from a 4000€ camera.

>>228936
Im aware of that. The whole new generation basically had minor flaws. The 40D had plenty, both the 1-series cameras had autofocus issues + 1Ds had very bad banding issues which already were fixed. They also had problems with misaligned viewfinders etc.

all grips on dslrs (the now-antique 10d being an exception) suck because they're made for little girl hands.

in that respect, canons are slightly easier to hold. especially the full-bodied ones.

i'm kind of a canon fanboy when it comes to lenses and bodies, but nikons have suprised me in two ways
1- mid level flashes (canons 580ex's are better, if you're into blowing a lot of money away for a strobe)
2- viewfinder
nikons viewfinders on everything on the d80 up is superb. big/bright/ woot

like i said though, im a bitch for canon L lenses.

like you couldn't have taken an equally crappy snapshot with a dslr, 35mm or even a point and shoot.

I don't think you own a large format camera.
