Yes. The only thing you'll miss over the D300 is the 100% finder.

For a beginner the D40 is fucking good enough.

and 8fps, 51 point af, a cf card slot, assorted handling issues (dedicated wb/iso/qual buttons, no easy mode, not plastic)

..etc
>> Anonymous
>and 8fps, 51 point af

Useless for most photographer-subject combinations.

>a cf card slot

100% useless. No reason to pack both on. Multiple slots are a good thing, but pick one type of card and stick with it.

>dedicated wb

We call that the white balance slider in ACR.

>iso

Useful but not essential at all. ISO tends to be pretty constant, remember what it used to take to "switch ISO?" Yeah, people were fine.

>qual buttons

I can think of no reason to ever touch this once it's set to either raw or raw + small JPEG, depending on taste and workflow.

>no easy mode

What the hell is P then? And what does it matter pro or con if they put two slots for it on the dial with one of them in green?

>not plastic)

The inside, which is what matters, is metal on both bodies.

Oh, and we both forgot weathersealing.

It'll be their best seller.

The D80 before it was and the D70 before that was too.
