sup /p/ any D80 fags here?
what basic setting do you use for your D80, I've just got one and in terms of using it/setting it up the only in depth I could find was ken trollwells.

these are the settings I'm using atm:

image sharpening: auto
tone compensation: auto
color mode: III
saturation: auto
hue: 0
long exposure NR: off
high ISO NR: normal
AF mode: single area
ISO auto: on
center-weighted: off

Read the manual. :)
>> BurtGummer !!RRMHFHglFsy
Its current standard settings:

Mode: Aperture
ISO: 300
AF: single Area
WB: Auto (RAW)
high ISO NR: High (i do a lot of low light, but it doesnt appear to damage day shots)
Sharpness: High
Color hue: 1A (if i shoop a lot is it worth changing to Adobe RGB II?)

Don't use Adobe color space. It'll just cause problems.

use mode III gives the best range of colors, and why do you change the hue, wat

the ken rockwell D80 guide isn't too bas, if you ignore a few his: I crave vivid color set the saturation to over 9000, and also his use jpeg basic because "hes a data cheapskate", but apart from that his guide is pretty helpful.

Image settings like saturation or contrast I leave at normal or set to B/W for the preview. I shoot RAW+basic small jpeg (easy preview on PC) anyway so it doesn't matter. Same goes white balance not leaving Auto. Those settings won't affect the RAW files.
All NR, off though I sometimes enable Long Exposure NR.

ISO Auto: On if working with available light with minimum at 100, max at 1600 and min shutter of 1/80.
Func button is at displaying the ISO
Focus area, wraps
Grid always on
Exp delay, on if doing a stabilized long exposure

I've also configured my custom menu so the settings I never ever change are hidden so the ones I usually change are easily accessible.

how do you guys determine the min. shutter speed you use?
>> Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH
>>273700
Rule of thumb is to use the same shutter speed as your iso, then adjust apt.

Although, thats kinda' dead now.
Without VR, I can -usually- hold 1/30th.

>Rule of thumb is to use the same shutter speed as your iso, then adjust apt.
That only works in sunlight and if you don't have a meter.

It all really depends on the movement of your subject and of your hands. To minimize motion blur from hand shake, a guideline was to set the shutter to be at least the inverse of your focal length in its 35mm equivalent. For example, if you're on a 50mm in crop, set your shutter to 1/80. Of course, this all depends on the person holding the camera. My hands can be shaky as hell so I set it faster than usual and I think it was Buttertrap who can hold a camera steady for longer in gale winds while being buttraped by a tele.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>273702
No, the rule of thumb is to use 1/focal-length (well, technically 1/35mm-equiv-focal-length, but the rule's fuzzy enough that a 1.5x or 1.6x crop doesn't make that big of a difference). You're thinking of the Sunny 16 rule, which is something else.
>> Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH
Ah, I know the sunny sixteen rule.
I've always used the same shutter speed as ISO for most of the shots I do in during the day, regardless. *shrug*

Thanks anyway
>> Sicko !L3HRY/miC.

Ideally, just get used to using your camera and lenses in different situations and learn what you can manage personally.

>>273700
I think he was talking about the min. shutter speed you limit it to use when auto ISO is on, its one of the settings under auto ISO
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ

wat
>> Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH
>>273866
If i'm just taking photos of mates, or .. i dunno, cars? Then I just match the shutter speed to the iso; Which is usually 200.
>>
>>273422
I use standard saturation and I do shoot in jpg basic, I have no need for RAW and for me, NORMAL and FINE compression really are a waste of space.

I get paid just as well so why not take more shots and save some HDD space?
