Amateur photos OP
Hi /p/! First time poster, long-time lurker. I got a camera for Christmas, and I thought I'd break this baby in and post my virgin shoot for critique. This is my first (serious) time taking photographs. Any advice for a beginner?

resize it, take photos of somthing interesting, use rule of thirds.

now fuck off and practice more.

I only really want my content to consist of landscapes, and interesting city photos (DC & Baltimore area) like graffiti, old buildings/unkempt parts of the city, back-alleys, nightlife, etc. I don't really want to mess around too much with editing, but when I pick-up and shoot, I want to capture exactly what I'm seeing. I figure that'll take a bit of practice... shutter speed, light and all that. All of which I know nothing about.

You obviously haven't lurked before, or you'd already know our responses :P

there are plenty of books out there to read, library, etc. I'd suggest you pick up a couple to read. Try to get more of a variety in your shots when it comes to light. A nice, dark blue sky is good, most of the time you don't want it to be washed out. Both photos you've posted look a little dark to me, but it might just be my monitor. Practice. Don't center things in the middle of the frame, then try again :)

gee, did someone wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?

She turned into a bitch.

Sky's clipped all to hell. Try to take pictures at a time when the lighting's better so you get a nice blue instead of 0xFF. Also, resize. Also also, don't listen to Butterfly; too many years using Sony hardware has made him/her seriously cranky.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
i gave the same advice you did...
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>107548

learn to be nicer.

>>107542
when did this happen?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>107548
Yeah, but you did it in a flametastic way. There's a big difference between "Here are the ways you can improve your photos:" and "You're a dumbfuck. Here are the ways that you fucked up, dumbass. Go fucking fix them before you even consider coming here and pissing us off again:"

...couple months ago? Can't say exactly. But the trolling turned into vicious rage.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>107555
It was about the time the rest of you started trolling me pretty much permanently about my choice of camera system. you reap what you sow.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>107556

I hate to say it, but you likely walked right into the trolling you're now getting by being rude and trolling yourself. You're right- you DO reap what you sow. That said; i've never trolled you and I don't care what camera system you use. But you've gotten really bitchy so I said something.

Back on topic: OP, work on keeping y our sky from washing out and dominating the picture.

Pshaw. Gentle ribbing. Develop a thicker skin.

And being a bitch just makes us want to mock you more. Break the cycle of hate!

>>107556
I didn't troll you either, and neither did the op here.
It just encourages the real trolls, since you've shown you respond how they want.

Gee, thanks. Looks like I walked into a fight found myself an unwitting victim

so despite someone claiming to lurk for a long time, they still cant remember the basic stuff we tell everyone in every thread. Seriously.

actually we were defending you.

>>107573
Who cares? This is 4chan. If you expect anything otherwise you've too much hope. You still don't have a good reason to bitch out the OP like you have here. At least be constructive & nice.

>>107572
Sorry OP -_-

Sorry OP -_- Just keep shooting and like we said earlier- go through some photography books and learn exposure, dof etc that way. It'll help in the future.

Sour grapes, etc.
At least>>107419and>>107424can give decent advice. Those are the kind of answers I was looking four. /out

i think we should have a sticky about sizing photos you want to post and get critique on, especially if you're noob.

the >2MB, >1200px photos should already warrant frantic saging of this thread.

of course, there are cases where hi-res photos are necessary(comparing noise/detail threads) and awsome(pksaught). but in all other cases it just deters me from looking at the full pic :(
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
How about someone starts a thread with "/p/ 101 - What you need to know first"?
>> else !L6xabslN96
>>107618
that'd be great! unfortunately, i dont think there's anyone on /p/ qualified to do that.

Just agree on some general stuff to say here, make a rough draft and we can agree on someone prominent like Jeremo or AC to post it, so we don't get a bunch of the same topic.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s

Its been tried before, the mods dont care it wont happen.
