>>52640 This is actually a good idea, although I'd personally recommend going with a lower-dollar camera that you can fit in your pocket but which still has creative controls and whatnot. That way, the camera will still be useful to you as a go-anywhere pocket camera after you upgrade to an SLR.
You mentioned that you don't know a whole lot about digital cameras. Does that mean you're experienced with film, or does it just mean you're not very experienced with cameras in general?
