Hey /p/

I'm a nub photographer, and recently picked up a D40. At the moment, I only have the kit lens. Are there any others that I should have?

stick with the kit lens for now, its better than you think it is and better than ppl make it out to be. The kit lens covers all your general photography needs for now.

Basically as stickman said, stick with the kit lense, it takes photos and gives you a decent range of zoom/wide. Once you start getting comfortable and decide what sort of photography you are most interested in, then start looking at other lenses / accessories.

If you want inexpensive telephoto for your next lens, I'd suggest the Nikkor 55-200 VR for around $250, dirt cheap for a stabilized lens which will allow you about 1.5 - 2.5 stops of lee-way for low-light situations.
