Of course, "comparable to Photoshop" doesn't mean "favorably comparable to Photoshop". It's usually more along the lines of "While there's absolutely no danger of Gimp replacing Photoshop any time in the forseeable future, it's a reasonably capable image editor"

(Disclaimer: I use Gimp as my primary photo editing program)

Yeah, I love Gimp but really, it's not even close to rivalling to Photoshop.

Gimp but with Photoshop menu/toolbar arrangements for ease of use (if you're familiar already with Photoshop that is). I find Gimp's commands too cryptic, so this worked GREAT for me.
note it hasn't been updated in like a year and a half (uses GIMP 2.2.11 for Mac, 2.2.8 for Windows)

I love Gimp! I've never really seriously used Photoshop, so I couldn't compare the two. I edited this photo in Gimp earlier that I took of one of my buddies..

XV FUCK YEAH!

I find it amazing that it hasn't been updated since nineteen-ninety-goddamn-four and it still whups the ass of any other Linux image viewer out there in most situations. I've recently been tempted to write my own image viewer that would be basically XV plus the one or two features I wish XV had (notably, allowing me to zoom in on a picture without cropping and resizing). But then I remember that I apparently don't have the patience to finish any program more complex than Hello World...
