How do you manage to take pictures of stuff happening on TV with best possible quality?

By TV I mean a big, old-fashioned box, not a slick plasma TV. You know, the one with dots and shit.

My best guess is not to use flash at all, since it reflects off the TV screen and causes grey-ish colors. And facing the screen in a straight line helps the screen ratio.

So, what are your secrets for second-lens photography?
