i'm kinda new to photography. this was taken with a nikon d80 and an 18-200vr. any tips on my touch up techniques? i took out a couple of hot pixles, sharpend some and ran noise ninja over it.

I think what our friend Meese is trying to say, to improve this photo - having the subject off-center would be more effective.

Regarding touching-up photos, use Unsharp Mask. Although be careful, its very easy to overdo.

No it isn't. Glance at the thumbnail of the shot - your eyes go straight for the bird's eyes. Eyes tend to be the focal point in shots of things with them, so you should try and compose with that in mind.

Don't think of it as just a shot of "a bird" or else you'll never be able to get composition down.
