I just got my ol' D50 back. Is it outdated and shitty now, what the deal?

Also, film vs. digital shooting. I prefer digital because then I don't have to shell out cash to a darkroom, but is digitally shooting like all of a sudden less respected or something?

I noticed during my trip to Sante Fe a weird tendency in gallery owners to immediately assure visitors that the photography on the wall wasn't digital, and that "no photoshop" was used. I think people believe that "digital" is shorthand for "quick and dirty," and somehow lacks the dignity of doing it the ol' fashioned way.

The D50 is awesome, I shoot with one as my primary camera, and it produces fanfuckingtastic color and the noise is admirably low, since it's 6Mp. Shoot with it, don't feel any shame. It's awesome. Make images.

I wonder how many novelists assure their audience that their original manuscript was written on a typewriter rather than a heathen computer.

I suspect the whole digital vs. film thing stems from the fact that with digital, a whole new generation found themselves suddenly able to easily take pictures, get instant feedback, and produce really shitty DeviantArt postings. The sheer volume of crap that has arisen as a result of new technology leads people to believe that traditional techniques are immune to this idiocy.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense, especially the bits about the insane amounts of shitty DA uploads since the digital SLR era has arisen and the common associate thereafter assuming all people with DLSRs suddenly suck.

Good words!
