Hello /p/ quick question

A few days ago I was putting a new CF card in, when I turned my camera on I kept getting an error message saying something was wrong with my card. I tried another card and got the same results.

I looked inside my camera and noticed two small wires were bent out of place. My question for all you good people: Should I stop being such a pussy and bend them back myself? Or take it in to a shop and have them do it.
>> Anonymous
Bend them back if you are not stupid. If you fear that you are too stupid to do it then by all means pay someone who is slightly less stupid to do it for you.

I read on here some time ago a fucking good tip. Use a mechanical pencil with no lead in it to bend the pins straight. Slide it over the end of the pin and straighten it up. Don't go to town adjusting it heaps, two bends and the pin will fall off probably.
>> Anonymous
Op, this has been discussed before, try to do it with a mechanical pencil, since it has a hole capable of bending it back straight.

these guys are clever. this is your best bet unless you feel like taking it to someone else. CF interface still scares the shit out of me for this exact reason. SD ftw

this is why SD is the superior format. enjoy your pin failures

for those of us who have fully evolved, and don't consider possible "pin failure" as a weakness of compact flash format

speeds are the same, your buffer will run out way before you hit the speed limits on your card

ignoring the pin failures doesn't make the weakness go away
>> Anonymous
Of the half dozen CF card using camera owners I know, I've never once heard of a pin failure.

the D90 using SD vs. the 50D using CF

in conclusion, your buffer will run out way before you hit the speed limits on your card
>> Anonymous
SD cards are cheaper too.
>> Anonymous
>>275783
card speed has a little more to do with performance than just continuous writing speed
>> Anonymous
SD cards get the same stigma four-thirds does

sure, they were slower and didn't have the same capacity as CF did a few years ago but they caught the fuck up and are on par with CF on every level.

but idiots like to keep on going LOL SD CARD IS FOR NOOBS
>> Anonymous
>>275785card speed has a little more to do with performance than just continuous writing speed

What exactly do you mean?

Take any dSLR, one SD and one CF. Like the 50D and D90.

Both are capable of fairly high speed frame rate, 4-6 FPS? Both will buffer up to 100 JPGs and 10-15 RAW.

I don't see what you're trying to say.

i think the reason that camera companies still stick with CF is because so many photogs have large amounts(capacity wise) of CF cards and going sd for next camera is just another hurdle in getting a new camera...

either way i still prefer CF.
>> Anonymous
>>275812
I also prefer CF over everything else in photography.
very much because of the convenient form factor.

SD cards are too fucking small.
>> Anonymous
1DMkIII - SD and CF card slots. Mawhahahahhahaha!
>> Anonymous
I like CF more, less because of any speed or capacity restraints but more because CF is larger and harder to loose if you've got a few.
>> Anonymous
I usually use CF cards, but recently I got a SDHC->CF adapter and I use SD cards whenever I ran of space in CFs.

Which usually is never, but you know, I'll be prepared.
>> Anonymous
I've been using CF and PCMCIA cards for a decade+ and have never bent a pin nor run into a bent pin.
Who are these hamfisted fucks bending all these pins?
>> Anonymous
OP here

It bent itself back. Everything is cool as a cucumber.
>> Anonymous
cheaply made cf cards can make bending more common
>> Anonymous
I'm not sure if it is the case for cameras, but for other devices that read cf cards the end pins that are slightly longer than the rest are not actually used for anything. So if they break off the device will still work and read/write to the card.
>> Anonymous
Yeah, what is with this bent pins shit?

I slam my CF cards in and out like I'm reloading a .45, have been doing so for years, and have never had a problem.

of course if all you're talking about is RUNIN IN2 BUFERZ then all cards become the same after a certain point depending on your camera.
with the intended lexar reader for the UDMA cards the transfer speed is insane
>> Anonymous
>>275555

thank god for craigslist
>> Anonymous
>>277220

The point is that cameras right now do not exceed the limits of cards yet, whether they are CF or SD.

Read speeds on a card reader is a completely different thing.
>> Mr._Laugh_Out_Loud !!rc0QDfC1oX3
>>277268

your point is that cameras right now can't even reach the limitations of the fastest SD card, let alone UDMA CF.
that is WELL KNOWN, but thank you for stressing that fact anyways, that we all may better understand the handbook fundamentals of card speed vs. continuous shooting buffer...

that wasn't my point. UDMA cards with the proper reader will transfer gigs of content at a rate that's astronomically faster than the fastest SD card. that makes CF the most desirable and absolutely superior format for people who are doing a lot of serious shooting.
aside from "LOL NO PINZ NO FAIL" there is not one thing that is technically better about SD card format. they are both a card that holds data. at the moment, CF has the potential ability to transfer said data at a much faster rate, given a few conditions.
that was my point.
CF format is superior to SD format.
>> Anonymous
SD cards are better cause of 1 word: convenence.

their just as fast, and they dont got no pins to brake like OPs pins. there just better, there smaller, lighter AND CHEEPER
>> Anonymous
>>277322

So what the fuck is your point if you agree with me, you idiot?

People were going LOL SD IS SLOWER THAN CF, which is not true.

Everyone was talking about write speeds while in camera. You came in here, saying some bullshit and proved wrong and now you're backed in a corner and say they read faster in a card reader, when no one ever brought up that point. Jesus, you're an idiot.

We shot raw + JPG on a Canon 1Ds so my client would have both kinds of files from which to learn afterwards. It took a half hour to download the images from the 1 Gig flash card, and we never even used the raw files.

please link the post where someone says SD is slower than CF.

nobody was ever talking about that in this thread except you, because you aren't good at reading i guess.

>>275785
this post is me. i didn't realize before posting that one sentence that it would take several fucking paragraphs to explain my implications. which i just did in my previous post

nobody in this thread was talking about continuous write speed in camera except you, because you completely fucking misinterpreted one of my anonymous posts.

unless you're trolling me right now kindly refer to a basic reading comprehension textbook. fucking ape
