Astrophotography bitches, does /p/ take shoots of the sky? :3
>> Anonymous
My pictures of the night sky would be slightly yellowish black clouds. I haven't seen the stars in years.

"nice" photo, too bad for the star trails.. have you ever done photo stacking?
>> Anonymous
I've been pretty interested in this. Are there any good reads on a general how to do astrophotography? Or are any of you willing to explain it?
>> Anonymous
>>261710
Seconded.
Op here, i've been trying Deepskystacker, and exposing with a 50mm, 15 shots of 8" ISO800 F5.6 and 5 dark frames, 3º try came "acceptable"

Yeah, I was pretty sad once I got to see them on a 'real' screen. It was too hard to tell on the rebel's, and chimping ruined my night vision.
That being said, I know NOTHING about stacking!

It would be great if some ancient wizard of stacking post ITT and fill us with his wisdom.

Can you stack accurately without an equatorial mount?
I bought a meade ldx 55 mount with dual axis drive, and the guy never sent it, So I kind of gave up on it.

I have done the last two perseid meteor showers, (meteor's are a bitch to photograph)

I think so, if you do the 600/ mm used, e.g.: 600/80mm (a 50mm in a crop camera) would give us 8" exposures.
As long as you don't go past the 8" there won't be any star trails, but of course it won't be the same as the one taken with an equatorial mount

so the software will rotate the images to keep the stars in line too?
that rule only works for 1 single picture
>> Anonymous
>>262286
Thats right, will stack photos according to the stars possitions...also, will discard the worst shots. This method is not only used for this kind of shots, but also for "alternatives" for not HDR'ing

Do you do multiples and different exposures times? How do you calculate the exposure?
Will really appreciate, thanks
>> Anonymous
>>262532

ask some of your hipster friends, brah.
>> Anonymous
>>262534
multiple exposures, every image is exposed same time. also for good results, multiple dark frames are needed (same as normal exposure but with lens cap on place, no incoming light)

>>262558
Thanks, being night in this side of the world, will go outside for a shot... thank you!

Some of us aren't using DSLRs and would like not to waste film if we can get a basic starting point from people who have clearly pulled it off well themselves. Otherwise what's the point of discussing any of this?
