Panasonic LX3? Anonymous
Does /p/ approve of this camera? Looking for something small, light AND awesome to compliment my DSLR.
>> Anonymous
Get a small DSLR, idiot.
>> Anonymous
Fuck you, even a small DSLR can't fit into my pocket.

I have one. It's great. My only complaint is that the joystick control sucks compared to a wheel (think Powershot G9).

24mm-equiv f/2.0 lens at the wide end. 1/6.3" sensor. Sounds like win to me.

When you get it, post some pictures and tell us about it.

Will do. Probably will be getting one tomorrow, but are there any alternatives to this? I had a TZ3 and I realised I never actually use the 10x, only like 80mm at most.

Ricoh GX-200. Go fondle them at the store, etc. etc.

>>266998
Ricoh GR Digital II and Sigma Slowpoke are the only ones in the same niche (that I'm aware of).

The noise levels are a little too high for me. I tried printing out their ISO 400 photos and it looks noisy. Sigma is fixed zoom so no.

Just what is the difference between the Ricoh GX-200 and Ricoh GR Digital II anyhow? Anyone?

Back on topic, the LX3 does look sweet, was shocked how small the thing is, from the promo shots I got the impression it was a good handful, but its teeny!!!

My next compact to replace my faithful Ixus 500 will either be an LX3, one of those Ricohs if someone can help me get my head around just what is different or a G10...

the lx3 looks small at certain angles and from pictures

but it's as big as a Canon G9 in real life, see picture for reason. volume wise, it's smaller but the lens leaves a lot of dead space. i guess it's still pocketable

Thanks. Any reason why one would pick the G9 over the LX3?

Better controls, more zoom range, MOAR MEGAPICKLES.

lol at MP comment. Anyway, noise control is kinda important to me. Saw the noise levels on the G9 and it's shit compared to the LX3. Guess it's still out of the question for me.

If you can live with the limited zoom range, you can't really go wrong with the LX3.
>> Shu
Isn't the G10 supposed to be out, like now? Canon stuff hits the UK way fast now, which is good.

But seriously, the LX3 is TINY! Normally a good thing I know! But I have rather large hands, am used to the old Ixus Tank size, and really thought the LX3 would be the size of an old rangefinder..

It does look really sexy, not sure yet how much the optional lenses would cost though compared to those for the G10, or how the quality would compare.

So what's the point of you getting a P&S if you're gonna complain about the noise?
>> Anonymous
>>267044
As much as I like Canon, their consumer cameras always fail when the ISO goes above 200. I'm not asking for DSLR level of noise, at least something comparable to Fujifilm or Casio's offering. Panasonic LX3 does the job well.

I know about P&S and their limitation with noise control, but when 6R prints show the noise, it's unacceptable to me. As long as it doesn't show, I'm fine with the noise level, something Canon G9 can't do at ISO 400, but doable on the LX3 so far...

If you're willing to spend some dough on software, get the NoiseNinja, will save you the trouble with future projects. Why not the Nikon P6000?

Thanks /p/ I bought a LX3 after trying out both the Nikon and this. The size, weight, and feel totally won me over, and the photos from this looks amazing even at ISO 400. The Nikon was too noisy for my liking. Since the weather has been terrible today, I hope to take some photos tomorrow.

all panasonic lx cameras shoots in native 16:9 ratio. it is a unique shooting experience. know what you are getting before you get it. i have a lx2 and i love it, but the camera is not for everyone. it is a great alternative to a dslr when i don't want to lug my 30d and lenses around with me. just don't expect it to have great low light performance.
