Some tips. Shoot RAW. RAW is your super best friend. Learn to post process. In low light that's really your only way to get any superb photos. If you have to, just underexposure. Underexposured, but a sharp photo is much better than goodly ligthed photo with massive amounts of motion blur. I use mostly M or Av. Auto exposure is a bit tricky on gigs. If there's only black background, and you want the artist to lit properly, you have to "underexposure" one or two steps. But, if there's lot of smoke which shatters the light, then you might have to overexposure. Metering is not that hard. Just take some shots, look how they come out, tweak exposure.
