/p/, tell me the bad news.

I dug out my dad's old x700 today, to discover a Rokkor 50/f1.4, 70-210/f4, and Rokkor 500/f8.

the problem is, the 50/f1.4 and the 70-210/f4 have bad fungus, the 50/f1.4 not near as bad as the 70-210/f4.

The Rokkor 500/f8 is spotless.

i'm going to take it to the local camera store on monday, what are the chances of the glass not being fubar?

picture slightly related.

The good news: I'm sure it can be fixed

The bad news: Hope you're rich

you know the lens thread a few days (weeks?) ago where the guy had the "snowflake" lens?

Not nearly as bad as that on the worst one, and the 50/f1.4 has just one "Spiderweb" looking fungus.

I'll post pics tomorrow, all my stuff is in my basement and it's almost 2am.

to me, its more if a case of whether it financially worth spending the money on these lenses when you could probably buy better cond 2nd hand ones for similar or even less.

so i went on and took pictures cause...yeah.

this is the 50/f1.4.

it's surprisingly hard to take pictures of the inside of lenses.

and finally the fungus free 500/f8 and the x700. I also found a 35-70 macro, 28/f2.8, and a 50/f1.7, all with mild fungus.

How do lenses get this fungus crap, and what can be done to avoid it?

probably the fact that these are 25+ year old lenses didn't help much.

Store the lenses in a clean, dry place. If you have a lens with fungus, don't place it near non-contaminated lenses.

I got my MC Rokkor-X PG 50/1.4 for about $20. So saving 'em might not really be financially worth it.
