M2 & collapsable summicron Teus !QbSstcPD6U
wel y halo thar

I'm getting the Jupiter-3, Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f/1.5 replica later this week. nice kit, not bitingly sharp but enough to get me started. got a light meter for it as well (not as sexy, so I handhold it)

*hate*

Post pictures. Create good work. Otherwise I'll be forced to really hate you. :(

uhm... what?

I'll put behind glass in my room, no way I'll take this funny thing outside to actually shoot with it
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
lol troll.

I didn't see your tripfag for some reason. I'm looking forward to whatever you shoot with this. I'm confident you can do great stuff with this camera.

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.

I don't see why people think these are such expensive cameras. Sure they're not cheap, but they're on par with a mid-range DSLR and nobody baaaawwwws about how expensive and unobtainable those are. An M2 with collapsible summicron shouldn't be more than $1200 or so.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>131558
Because it's a manual focus, 35mm film camera with no light meter that's the same price as a mid-level SLR. Granted, by all accounts, Leica Ms are the best-made 35mm film cameras around, but still.

>>131561
And even if one doesn't want a SLR, there are new - and only marginally inferior to Leica mechanically - rangefinders for a couple hundreds less.
>> Teus !QbSstcPD6U
developed mah negatives. at first sight, they look evenly spaced, no light leaks and accurate shutter.

updates in 3-4 hours when negs are dry.

I'm intrigued by this little shop's sign. The english reads "Probably the best", but the French reads (go-go-gadget-4 years of High School French) "Without a doubt the best", which is a very different sentiment.

The Dutch at the end (according to Google Translate) says "Simply the best", which matches fairly closely to the French.

Correct (Eurofag speaking Dutch and French and English here), the English is very different from the Dutch and French. Looks like a Belgian shop to me, trying to attract international visitors by including English on the sign, though not being too good at the language, since it isn't their native language.

hi there :)

well, maybe they wanted to imitate Carlsberg. we have a lot of French/British tourists alright (chocolates!!).

just a different/nicer way of phrasing, its OK for me. more importantly, their paté is excellent :-)

Why hello.

(Yes, your chocolates are good. ;_; )
>> angrylittleboy !wrJcGUHncE
You're lucky with that J3. Most of the people I know had troubles looking for a well-functioning Jupiter-3.

Best chocolate I have had recently was Cuban/French.

it still needs to get here, but it should be OK. I got a belarussian friend with a lot of knowledge that assisted me through buying all this (heck, the jupiter-12 is even from him). quality checking of jupiter glass wildly varies, and there are different revisions as well.
>> Anonymous
Why would you get a J-3 when you have a 'Cron already? The J-3 is a great lens in its own right, but that's still like $150 worth of film you're giving up for an extra stop.

Not attacking you, just wondering if you have a reason that I'm an idiot for missing.

A stop is nothing to sneeze at.

>>132855
$150?!
Indeed, it's one of the less common Soviet lenses, but I saw those being sold for $50-60.
>> Anonymous
>>132864
The Jupiter 3 has become one of the more expensive of the cheap soviet lenses lately. I'd say around $100 is pretty common.

>>132863A stop is nothing to sneeze at.
True, but does this lens deliver anywhere near acceptable sharpness wide open? Some do, some don't. I'm not saying OP is wrong to have bought it, just that in this case maybe that extra stop isn't really there.

I personally have really loved the look of many of the russian lenses I've owned. I haven't loved the build quality, but that's another story.
>> Teus !QbSstcPD6U
just got my J3. good condition, focus barrel a bit loose and stiff. its an earlier chrome version, should focus OK.

leaving right now for some live music, will shoot some photos. i'm only worried about not having a reliable light meter!
>> Anonymous
>>132902
You should be able to repair the focus barrel, most of Soviet lenses are very simple to disassemble.
>> Teus !QbSstcPD6U
back from shooting, pretty wonderful with this camera. pushed tri-x to EI800, gonna soup it in TMAX developer (compensating dev, aka forgiving). shot around 2-3 rolls. only no luck with my 50-75mm LTM adapter, doesn't show framelines properly

photographed my friends a bit, went easier than with an SLR.

>>132904
friend I bought the 35 f/2.8 from, gave me an industar 5mm f/2.8 for free. I'll practice maintenance/repair on it and give the jupiter-3 a spin then.

>>132884
It's $129 from Fedka, who's one of the few guys that stands by the focusing accuracy of the lenses he sells. Sure you can get a cheap J-3, but that's where the whole "buy three and use the good one" rule came from.
