should i be lolling at how he holds the camera or is it just me who doesn't use that grip orientation when going portrait

hand on top ftw

It always distracts me and breaks the immersion when I see the obviously clueless actors who have no idea how to use a camera trying to pretend to be part of the press or something. It's like their first time ever holding one. They could have at least tried a day or two before the shoot.

I tend to do shutter hand over, it feels more flexible for recomposing. However i've seen a lot of people who do shutter hand under. Especially if they use their left eye to look through the viewfinder (I use my right)

I'm a lefty so it's more comfortable to hold it the way the guy in the picture is holding it (kinda, my left hand is usually on the lens). I'll probably get a battery grip eventually though, and if/when I do I'll switch to grip orientation.

Shutter hand over is more comfortable for recomposing.

I use shutter hand under for discretion and candids even though I see with my right eye. (nose smears ftl, but I actually get less than one would expect with that position) Also, grease is the least of my problems if I'm actually getting my shot.

Also, left hand on the lens barrel, always.

I go shutter hand under but keep my left hand on the lens.

insomnia sucks.

WTH is goin on with the subtitles?

I tend to have right hand over, right eye but rest the camera on my nose using the flash. Works well cause my face isnt that wide so doesnt require much effort to hold up, does leave a mark on my nose after prolonged use.

I actually leave my tripod plate on which acts as a vertical handgrip (it's a 488RC4 so it's a massive plate).

I hold with shutter hand over, but I look through the viewfinder with my left eye; both eyes are open, so the camera helps to block my right eye.
