A friend of mine has been interested in photography for a while now. He has looked up all the technical stuff on how to take a good picture with his camera and while his pictures seem technically good, they are boring. I've been with him while he's taken pictures. They are beautiful scenes, but when they are developed they are pretty much crap.

Any tips/links to sites that would help him with capturing an interesting photo?

The picture is one of his from a year ago.

framing and placement in photography is really intuitive, you have it or you don't

its like a painter picking his angle and scene

just a painter spends way more time creating the image. a photographer just presses the button, or presses the button after optimizing some technical camera settings for the type of light hes working with

Your Friend "Aka you" just needs more practice, Anyonw can spout off rules and settings, but to find a good pic takes a natural talent.

If the OP's photo is an example of his/her friend's (*cough*) work, I don't think it's boring at all. It's rather thrilling, actually. The colours are extraordinary.

Not me. "Natural talent" is bullshit and only an excuse for bad teachers.

Again, not me, but thanks.
