Find a better looking model.

This one is better, but the skin needs photoshopping.

head almost looks shooped on in the second due to the lighting

1. She looks fine.
2. Not everyone pointing a camera at a female human being is doing "model shots."

First one was a lot better lighting/angle wise. Taking a straight-on shot is going to make their features looks less than pleasing.

Oh wow, when i read what you wrote i probably laughed for 5 mins straight. I'll make sure that doesn't happen next time.

I actually liked this one, some of the shadows are just not working for you though. I'd also adjust the angle just a tiny bit to avoid her nose from looking gigantic.

1) soft light.
2) don't let her nose cast a shadow. ever.
3) don't let the tip of her nose extend past the edge of her face. don't shoot it at a mugshot angle. 7/8, 3/4 at best. you should see the nearer ear, but not the other.

I think your model has a big cuteness potential. Don't aim for artsy-dramatic serious shots, dress her up in fluffy clothes and make her smile.

Didn't realize it was a model he could dress up. From what I read it was a friend seeking some headshots. You must do that crazy reading between the lines shit.

lighting is pretty harsh, all those ugly shadows make her look like a cancer patient. if you are going to cast a shadow with the nose light from a higher angle. Its always a failsafe to paramount women. just throw light directly to her face, straight on. like a nice large soft source, then if you want you can edge it out with a kicker or hairlight.

and think of the shape her skull when you light her.

I can't believe it took anon this long...
/p/ truly is the slowest board on the interwebs.

OP, what kind of headshots are we talking about?
Is this for a yearbook? For applying to acting gigs? Just to have artsy photos?

What she needs them for will drastically change what the photos should look like.

Big light source on the right side (bounced off a big white card maybe, ideally a soft box), fill card (another big white card but no bounce) on the left slightly further back, both just off camera.
