AF assist with AF servo? Anonymous
what's up guys

here's the thing: AF servo by itself works great for tracking with center AF point. AF assist from my flash works great to illuminate to get focus lock.

but i can't get both to work at the same time. i'm going to do some run way shoot where the chicks are walking straight towards me and while i can get AF assist to fire, by the time i press the shutter, they will have already moved away from my AF lock, if you know what i mean..

so i am going to have to man it up and manual focus? which is less than ideal because it's dark and i can't see shit in my viewfinder anyway :|

any suggestions?

Relevant to my interests, hadn't thought of this.

slight edit

i mean, the AF assist beam will fire but only long enough to get focus lock while AF servo will keep on tracking, not sure if you guys understand

if i could get the AF assist beam to fire continuously so that AF servo can keep on confirming focus lock on my subject, it would be perfect

frame and pre focus an area that you like on the runway.

continuous shooting.

happily ever after.

googled a bit and apparently, the beam doesn't work for the servo modes :/ fuck

>>295746frame and pre focus an area that you like on the runway.

yeah, well i'd like to get beginning/middle/end runway shots, so i have to juggle between 3 focus distances, which is less than ideal even on my top dollar zoom with focus scale

i would still just identify a couple different focus points and get accustomed with going from one to the other, manually.

get more familiar with manual focusing your AF lenses and you will be a much better photographer. in certain situations autofocus only gets in the way of making your shot.

..? what would changing my focus points help me at all? my center point is the most sensitive and it's still not 100% reliable in dark conditions.

lol.. if i had my old ai lenses, that would make sense

modern autofocus lenses have focus rings but no one really wants to be using them. the lens i have isn't perfectly parfocal either. you can't juggle between zooming and and out and then adjusting focus on moving subject. i'm pretty sure that's why people invented autofocus in the first place

inb4 i can move the zoom ring and focus ring with one hand at the same time and achieve focus

with all that said, i'll use the AF assist with one shot AF and release the shutter as soon as focus is locked.

i assume he meant focus points as in places on the run way.

does your camera not have continuous auto focus?

seriously learn how to manual focus though, it probably wont be all that dark with other photographers there shooting off flashes all over the place and your subjects will be light some way or another.
are you getting payed for this or is it just for fun?

Continuous shooting while spinning your focus ring back and forth. One will land right.
