So /p/ I bought a Sigma 50-500mm HSM f4-6.3
My E-peen is now HUGE
(Well not yet its being shipped as we speak)
Why did I buy it? Uhh Impulse buy? I sold a 400mm f5.6 and a 15mm f2.8 fisheye, and couldn't decide what to do with all that paypal money... Spent $600 on it.

On a related note, if you look up the lens on pbase all you find is creepy beach shots of chicks sunbathing in Isreal. (And by Creepy I mean Awesome, and by Sunbathing I mean Topless)

Heres an unrelated shot with my old 400mm f5.6 of the moon (With a craptacular 2x TC on it)

I had a fun time dicking around with that lens yesterday at work. Other than not being very fast, the absurd range was kickass.

I have a monopod, but in a pinch I want to be able to handhold it (from around 50-350mm, Daytime) You think thats going to be possible?

It feels ridiculously cheap for soo much lens, Even if it is crazy long (When zoomed)

As long as you're not zooming past 200-300, no sweat.

EXCELLENT, Plus now everyone will assume I am some sort of professional photographer because I have such a large lens.
Funny how that works.

all you need to remember is 1/focal length for your shutter speed.

1/[(focal length)(crop factor)], yeah?

Ya, But on a lens that heavy sometimes you need to bump that rule up a bit. IT also kind of depends on the body its attached to aswell.

The lens isn't all that heavy, but long lens is looooong and that'll unbalance the lens pretty quick. Also, 86mm filter wtf?

Ya i know 86mm makes the lens sound HUGE, its a good thing I never use filters, The stop or 2 of light loss from a circular polarizer would just kill this slow of a lens anyway.

I thought it was like 5 lbs, thats heavier than my 80-200 f2.8!
