Anonymous isn't really afraid of saying that your pictures suck for X and Y reasons, but then again, /p/ doesn't particularly get too much traffic. Thus, you might not get your c&c as quickly as you'd like. Also, having opinions from a wide audience is also good as well. There are a couple of seasoned vets here on /p/, but a large majority of posters are amateurs (myself included).
As for your camera choice, the D40 seems to be a welcomed model for the amateur or even an experienced photographer who wants to be able to take quality shots without carrying too much weight. Not a bad choice at all, but also research some lenses you wish to purchase afterwards.
