Canon 40D
Olympus E520
Pentax K20D
Sony A350

I think it's about time for Nikon to throw a D80x/D80s/D90 into the mix, don't you think?

So is the k20d. A better list would perhaps be, 450d, e520, k200d, a200. While the a350 fits into the original list's price range, it's really more of a niche camera for those that really need a non-sucky liveview, and are willing to sacrifice their ovf for it. Then again, I consider the d80 to be superior to the canon xxxd line.

e520 has the best kit lens(es) of the bunch.

the k200d and a200 don't have live view

the d80 is inferior to all of those until the new one

The D80 has 2 control wheels and a big viewfinder, which beats having live view in a lot of cases.

But yes, Nikon should update it. Add live view with the same LCD as in D300, bundle it with the 16-85VR instead of 18-135 and it will be an instant winner.

and I hope they leave the motor in

The only camera on this list that's better the D80 is the 40D. Period. The rest a low grade consumer garbage, whereas the 40D is "semi-pro" or maybe a tiny notch under that, and the D80 is a serious enthusiast camera.

all entry cameras are the same look at the kit lenses if you dont plan on getting new ones....
