pretty nice
that being said, im taking over this thread

i'm wondering why the prosumer compact cams are so much more expensive. The only real thing i see is that they have a slightly larger sensor (and raw, but this can be done on cheap cams with firmware upgrade).
I ask this bcs i'm doubting between a canon g6 or a s2/3 or the 710is. 2 last ones with modified firmware offcourse for more functions and raw. all second hand. I care about pic quality. Bigger sensor means less noise, but the g6 is older and as far as i see noise levels are the same.
with the modified firmware, the 2 newer cams even have more functions then the more expensive g6...
if you think im overlooking an option, tell me.
no dslr bcs of weight and size.

tl;dr buy advice canon g6 or s2/3 or 710is (last 2 with modified firmware for raw and more functions)

Where can I obtain this modded firmware for the S2 IS? Does it add RAW support?

yes
http://scratchpad.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK/FAQ
Q. What does the CHDK firmware do?

A. After loading of CHDK firmware you can get the following functionality:

* Shooting in RAW
* Live histogram (RGB, blended, luminance and for each RGB channel)
* Zebra mode (blinking highlights and shadows)
* DOF-calculator
* Battery indicator
* Scripts execution (exposure/focus/... bracketing, intervalometer and more)
* File browser
* Text reader
* Calendar
* Some fun tools and games :)

now someone return the favor and help me :P

Sorry I can't help with your question but THIS ROCKS! I now have RAW support on my S2IS ZOMG! Plus lots of other functions (Does a little dance). I vote S2IS but onyl because I have not tried the other 2 :)

I'd say go with the s3 or 710. I think the main thing that the G6 gives you is a hot shoe.

Which can very VERY usefull if you want to attach a decent flash.

Yeah, but if he's looking at point & shoots, he's probably not that concerned about adding a decent flash. And there's the option of using a slave sync with the internal flash as a workaround.

normally i read reviews and user opinions to decide what to buy, but here lies the problem
only reviews from the g6 are from 2004, and image q is compared to dslr's bcs of the high introduction price and to other compacts of 2004, wether with the s3 and 710 are newer and with a far lower introduction price, so maybe the reviewers adjust their choice of words depending on the public
like image q is good for a 600€ cam doesn't mean the same as image q is good for a 200€ cam
or maybe what was considered good in 2004 is now only mediocre..
