A lady came into my workplace with a 30D and a 24-70 f/2.8L today. I noticed that it said "MADE IN GERMANY" in gold lettering around the outside of the extending part of the barrel, but I was under the impression that all Canon lenses were made in Japan...EXIF data available. Are you sure you weren't reading the side of a filter? Lots of filters made on Germany, Rodenstock, etc.
