Hey guys. I just bought a Canon EOS ELAN 7. Any recommendations on lenses I should look into? I'm new to this, and want to work up to know how to use it completely before I save up for a DSLR. I got it for damn cheap so why the fuck not. Your help is much appreciated. All I got is a Digital Casio Camera at the moment, so I'm trying to work up to a better camera.

Seems to be consensus from people I've asked. And not too bad on the wallet!

I'd put down a little extra for the 50/1.4. But yes, a normal prime is always the answer to "what lens should I buy" if someone doesn't have one already.

Use some good film, if you must use color print film try out some kodak portra. Fuji Velvia is my fav film, but I cross process it, which isn't everyones cup of tea.

no dont do that. you wont be able to tell the difference at all. also the price difference isnt "a little".

get the 1.8. it will make you happy and wont leave you scratching your head to why you paid the extra money for the 1.4. the main reason ppl want the 1.4 is that they are camera nerds that think that the tiny difference is all that matters.

The 1.4 is of a higher quality build. It's sturdier, and there are some definite differences regarding image quality.
imo, if you think you're in it for the long haul, get the 1.4. It's a bit more expensive, but worth it.

^^comparison b/w the 1.2, 1.4, and 1.8 lenses.

The main benefit of the 1.8 is that it is incredibly CHEAP. If you've got an EOS camera then there is no reason not to have a wide aperture FFL lens with it being available. The 1.4 is a big jump in price and you get some clear benefits with it, but for someone dabbling in it or just starting I'd say get the 1.8 for now.
