i think its the best way to learn !

having to take your time to develop and control your photos will teach you a lot about the ideas behind aperture, shutter speed and iso/asa in film and hopefully someday digital.

learning in a cheap environment like this should be fun and educational ;]

I guess I got lucky with my start.
we bought a Nice SLR with it's standard lens with a 2x converter, telephoto, and a flash, for eight bucks mind you! Luckily enough my high school offers photo I and photoII they have a darkroom and everything, good fun.
