Soup /p/

So, i have been recently getting into digital photography and am getting an entry level DSLR for christmas (Sony A100K).

My dad was into photography in the 80s and has a Minolta X700 with all the goodies-Rokkor 500mm, Rokkor 70-210mm f 4-32, Rokkor 35-70 f 3.5, Rokkor 50mm f 1.4-16, Rokkor 28mm, the power advance, 360PX flash, a nice tripod, the whole deal.

I've been reading and apparently all the Rokkor lenses are MD, versus the new A100K's Maxxum/AF lenses. I know i'll have to use an adapter (and lose some quality) to use the Rokkor/MD lenses.

However, the flash. Will the 360PX flash fit on the A100k? I can't exactly tell.

Also, what should my first AF lens purchase be? It appears as if the Minolta 70-210mm AF (simply the AF/Maxxum version of the MD/Rokkor i have) is held in high esteem.

I don't believe so. Minolta, in its infinite wisdom, decided to eschew the nice standard hot shoe that everyone else in the industry used (with modification for TTL, but hot-shoe-compatible) when they switched to Maxxum. Because apparently making everyone buy all new bodies and lenses wasn't enough for them.

(Please note: Minolta no longer exists in a recognizable form as a camera manufacturer)

There are adapters to connect hot shoe flashes to Minolta-wierdness flash shoes, though.

Also: if you have even the slightest interest in film photography, steal that 50mm f/1.4 from your dad. I've got that for my old Minolta SR-T-SC II and it's teh sex.

what the fuck is a A100k?

Its an A100, the k is the kit name which is shit and you dont want (despite it being the best kit lense out of all kits :P)

>>101792
yo~

Anyway the A100 IS a 5D and the A700 IS~ a 7D all the dynax/maxxum lenses/gear fit and work.

The k is short for the German word "Kurz" meaning short. This means the camera is smaller and more lightweight, though it sacrifices some quality.

no its not, its the 18-70 kit lense version.

W twin lense
H long lense
K norm lense

Which is fairly irrelevant since he was asking about using his dad's old Minolta manual-focus gear on it, not Dynax/Maxxum stuff.

Hes still getting one tho, so its not totally irrelivent, although considering his stupidity i doubt his ability to realise what i was saying. He knows that he needs an adaptor to use the older gear already. Besides hes trying to buy a camera that doesnt exist.

That was a reference to the fact that more than a few /p/eople visit /k/ as well.

how is that a referance?

heh, new Minolta/Sony DSLRs can't use old Minolta flashes and manual lenses (without an image-degrading adapter), but Olympus/Panasonic DSLRs can. What irony

People mistaking mp5k, g36k, etc for their bigger cousins, and someone will point out that the k stands for kurz.
