Canon 18-55 IS = MADE IN CHINA Anonymous
BREAKING NEWS!

When the first batch of the brand new EF-S 18-55 IS was introduced, Canon proudly badged it as 'Made in Japan'. The optics were great for the pricetag and people were generally happy with it.

However, over Christmas and January, there has been a shortage of the new plastic wonder lens and many stores had it out of stock.

February comes along and the new batch of 18-55 IS are sent to stores worldwide. Canon is mass producing these for the new 450D kit.

THE NEW BATCH OF LENS ARE NOW MADE IN CHINA.

There has been no user reviews from it yet but the image quality might be a notch down from the first japanese made batch.

>Why would the image quality be any different?

Chinese kids vs. Japanese kids.

Build quality and image quality don't always go hand in hand.

Exhibit A: The EF 50/1.8.
Exhibit B: That really optically junk 50/1 Canon turned out at one point.

No difference between Chinese factories making a Canon design and the Soviet factories making a Zeiss design.

I know, but I thought you were using the joke to make a point about the difference in build quality and quality control of Japanese and Chinese made products.

I'd assume it was an L lens. I don't know much about it, other than that it was a 50mm, f/1 lens with miserable image quality.

Yeah, that's not really what I meant to do. Just saying it's not fair to call the 50/1 "junk".

I got to touch a Nocti a couple weeks ago at a camera show. I had no idea what it was at first because the size is so unexpected - about the size of the 18-55, actually. A zillion times heavier and nicer though.

The guy also unboxed an RD-1 for me to look at, but when I asked to mount a lens to try it out he didn't let me use the Noctilux ;_;
