what are /p/'s thoughts on the Pentax K110d? from what I hear the built-in shake reduction used in the K100d isn't that great.

Is it a solid alternative to the canon 400D and nikon D40?

The shake reduction in K100D may be a bit worse than in other cameras and lenses (although I never saw a direct comparison that confirmed this), but it's still very useful. The price difference between K100 and K110 is so small that it's stupid to try to save a couple dozen bucks on the 110.

And remember, you can get stabilized lenses for Canon and Nikon, but if you get the K110, you're stuck with no image stabilization at all until you upgrade the body.

I use a K100D. The shake reduction isn't as good as the newer ones, but it still kicks ass.

I use NIKON D80, its a good one... I think pentax is now a little low quality than Nikon, but indeed if are not pretty familiar wih SLR camera, Pentax will be good for a starting, but if you are confirmed just buy another camera like nikon D200 or Canon. No shake reducer but better quality when used correctly.

spoiler: Nikon and Pentax cameras, with the exception of K20D, have the EXACT SAME sensors.

How does pentax shake reduction stand up to sonys? I've never seen the two compared.
