1. Go back to /d/.
2. Go buy a real camera.
3. DON'T go to England

Only a 400mm 2.8 will work in England thanks to the dangerous and toxic English-radiation gas destroying all other lenses.

Buy that and good luck.

fuck off trolls, england being my native country is a wonderful place to photograph and get a D80 if you can afford one or a used D70/50 otherwise also get a 18-70 70-200 or a nice prime, its up to what you want to shoot

I've seen them run from aroun $450 and up, pending the package you get. I just checked quickly on Amazon.com, but they're not too expensive.

I would go for a D50 if I could afford it, but since I don't have a lot of money, I'll probably be buying myself a D40 in a while.

the d60 is a frickin' toy. if dropped, don't expect it to continue its existence in one piece, since it's all plastic.

Try picking up d200/d300 and playing with one at a camera shop. It's a bit heavy ~2lbs, but comfy. Can use *nearly any* AI MF or newer lens (except F3AF and IX).

If looking for d50/70/80 for ok prices, check for Salesman's samples at camera shops. 90 day Nikon warranty (not been *owned* by end-user only camera shops and displayed/test shot in store) plus whatever additional warranty from shop itself, usually tops up to 1 year.

The 18-55, 55-200 VR are good optically, but are plastic (cheap). 18-200 is good optically, but expensive. Depends on what you can afford and your intended usage.

Get a D80 or go canon

True. There's no reason to buy a D40/40x/60 other than price.
Seriously consider the Canon EOS and Pentax K systems. You might also look at the Sony Alphae. Unless you have or are planning to buy more than two lenses, there's absolutely no reason other than personal taste to favor one brand over another.

tl;dr Get the camera that feels best to you and forget about brand hype.
