will Canon make a new f/4 5x zoom with IS? Anonymous
do you think Canon will come out with a new 5x zoom with IS that is f/4 to replace the aging 17-85?

the 17-85 has been here since 2004 for people to replace their kit lenses with but it's been lacking in most aspects when compared to alternatives

i've been looking to upgrade my kit zoom and don't want to spend the big bucks on the 17-55 f/2.8 or any of the L zooms. a new 5x range zoom kind of like the 17-85 with constant f/4 and with IS would be great. would gladly pay a bit more for it.

OR make a new 17-85 but with improved image quality, like the new 18-55/55-250/18-200 lenses. i think they just added new exotic elements in those and it improved quality tremendously

Pentax has a lens like this, it's the 16-45 f/4. please just make this Canon :O

People eat up the 17-85s anyway. No reason to replace it.

the 18-55 IS is a lot better than the 17-85

the 18-200 IS is a lot better than the 17-85

Well, given a choice between a mediocre and a bad lens...

Canon doesn't need to replace any EF-S lenses. They'll last a couple more years, and then goodbye APS-C in every camera but the lowest-end Rebels (which don't need more than a kit lens anyway)

they just replaced the 18-55, made the 55-250, 18-200 and the canon guy said he would be making more stuff for ef-s because that's a good segment for women

true story

>>We don't think so; EF-S is perhaps more appealing to the younger market and female market, who appreciate the light weight. So EF-S is not going to be pushed out. At this moment we don't believe the 50D sector of the market will be going to full frame either, and we will continue to provide EF-S cameras and lenses to that segment."

those +4x zoom lenses are shitty quality anyway.. just use the 24-105 F4

the 24-105 is also a 4x zoom

a EF-S version of that would be smaller and lighter, perfect for the female market EF-S is for
