wow.. that is one hell of a long exposure.. did you use any filters to expose that long?
>> Anonymous
where? what time?
>> Anonymous
add another hour, to that exposure time, and you coulda had a much better picture... beware of long exposure times eating dslr batteries.

I did some longer ones, This one was mostly to document our little setup. I try to keep them below 45 minutes otherwise the amp glow on the D50 kind of ruins the top left of the picture.

Perseids Meteor shower, its still on right now, best seen from north america (western NA). Check wikipedia.

>>233817
Nope, actually I had to take off my CP filter because otherwise it would have been too dark. There was no visible light in the sky at this time other than the stars. The blue just happens to show up in the long exposure.

Your what filter?
>> Anonymous
dont really long exposures of a single light source (eg a stationary star) make problems for the sensor? like missing pixels?

I did a load of light art and had to send my DSLR back for warranty repair.. i thought maybe the harsh light had buggered the sensor maybe...
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL

Stars aren't that stationary.
Also I think it was just a fluke, I can't imagine something as dim as a star or lcd doing damage to a sensor that the Sun wouldn't in a few pics. Plus thats what warranties are for!

the D300 seems to be immune to amp glow. I do remember reading that CMOS's aren't affected in the same way CCD's are.

Heres a shot with an actual meteor in it now.
Taking pics of meteors is probably the most frustrating form of photography ever. You always miss them, and even when they are in the frame they are usually not bright enough to show up.
I used the 24mm f1.8 at F2, ISO 640-1000 on the D300. And that was just picking up the meteors!

are they weird fisheyes or panos?
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL

Sigma 8mm fisheye, Its a fun lens for this sort of thing. Meant to be on a full frame body, but it runs the full 180 horizontally on a 1.5x crop.
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
>>233860
damn that's nice

hey a little off topic.. but Vincent.. have you ever thought about incorporating your beautiful landscape composition with models/people?
I think you could do some great romanticism style photography once you've got the hang of it.
Typical model portraits aren't really your thing.. but I think you could really combine it with what you already excel at.
Thoughts?

I didn't find out about it until today. ;_;

I was with friends at the movies last night anyway. went to see Pineapple Express

I would like to do that, and I may have a good opportunity coming up soon.
All my GF's have actually hated my camera, and would freak out if I ever took a pic of them. However theres a new girl i'm trying to hook up with (Actually the last model I used to take pics of)

Because I often go on trips when I take pics now, It would be very helpful to have someone as hot as her along all the time :)
That or I could plan ahead and go on model mayhem or something whenever I go anywhere. Maybe I should sign up to MM after all lol.

Truth is I like my landscapes so I don't worry too much about incorporating people into them. I don't feel they are as sale-able aswell.

It's not over yet, just yesterday was the peak time.
Go take some pics if you still want to!

Go out even if it's rainning, ya pansy.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>233961
rain/extreme humidity and my camera don't mix well, mayne.

it quit raining a while ago though. if its not too humid (i.e. everything doesn't fog up on me the second I step outside) Im going to try in like an hour to take some pictures.
>> Anonymous
>>233964
Thought you meant going out to get drunk or whatever.

Still, pansy.
>> Anonymous
>>233964

lern2basicthermodynamics.

try to equilibrate the temp of your equipment with that of the temp outside before going out.

or just use one of your stupid, girly blow-dryers or whatever.
>> Anonymous
>>233967
could lenses fogging up potentially lead to fungus/mold?
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>233969
I doubt a blowdryer would do me much good considering how dry the heat from one is.

I'm talking about the sort of humidity where you walk outside and you're already wet :(
>> Anonymous
>>233974

use your head for christ sake.

what causes the fog is taking your equipment from relatively cool air to warm, moist air. if your lens is a bit warmer than inside your redneck house, it stands less of a chance of fogging up. "wet" heat and "dry" heat have nothing to do with anything.

alternatively, if you dont feel comfortable with heating your lens, just use a blow-dryer to hurry the evaporation of the fog.
>> Anonymous
>>233977
so use the blow dryer to heat your equipment outside in the high humidity?

your wrong.......
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>233977
or alternatively...I can just not worry about it and clean it off when I get outside like I always do. I get what you're saying, but it's a waste of time to do that. Honestly the humidity is less of a problem for the camera than it is for me, I just hate going out in it.

The sky isn't visible here yet anyway, that's why I'm waiting.

oh, lol @ redneck house also.

my family's house is (unfortunately) like _the_ most common set of house blueprints available...no shit.
>> Anonymous
>>233980

read, man..

>bit warmer than inside

there's no point trying to equilibrate to the temp before going outside when you're ALREADY OUTSIDE.

>>233984

that's pathetic.. then again, you don't take many pictures anyway. so, have fun.. i guess.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>233994
I take lots of pictures...I just don't post them here that often. Especially lately, I keep getting site-wide bans D:

what's pathetic about it, exactly? it's not like we're talking typical shooting conditions.
>> Anonymous
>>233998

blowing off a cool annual event because of the nighttime humidity is totally pathetic.

also, you know i only post the redneck/podunk/hick comments to poke fun at your southern location. it's silly to picture to hardcore redneck with an XTi
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>234013
the humidity isn't the reason I can't shoot...
>> Anonymous
>>234019

my bad.. i know it's storming over a lot of the south and mid-west.

when i said pathetic, i was more referring to when you said it was more of an issue of discomfort than the issue of your gear fogging up.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>234019
...I was going to respond to this with a witty picture of the sky and the giant black clouds covering it right now, but it's apparently raining really hard again. ;_;

But yeah, it's the fact that I can't see the sky right now. I was hoping it would clear up by midnight, but now I doubt it's going to.

please to be explaining the long exposure how 2 !

1. put camera on tripod
2. position camera
3. bulb mode + shutter release of whatever kind
4. profit

You have another week and a bit while they are still around, Its a good excuse to go outside and dick around with REALLY long exposures though.
