Did a bit of an experiment while I was on my photo trip.

Which one is better in your opinion?
And why?

Road leads your eyes towards the mountain that ISN'T Green.

>>251395
Isn't as good (but still a very nice shot). It feels like the hill on the left is dominating the photo, whereas the other is very well balanced.

To be brutally and harshly critical, these are both great. The only reason I would choose one over the other is that I saw the first one first and it claimed the "original idea" spot in my head. Also, the mountain in the background plays a larger part in the top pic, something that holds the gaze better.

Superb work as always!

Definitely the first one, Vincent.

Yar I agree, more things of interest on that mountain and the hill to the left, other shot is a little blander.

I would disagree with you and say the 2nd shot feels unbalanced because the hill on the left has been cropped off, so its very right heavy. First pic is still a bit off-balance but better because it has some of the hill to the right.

1st one for sure, much more interesting.

Ya personally I favor the top one, though I couldn't really figure out why myself.
Curious as to what you guys thought.

Bottom one has more direct lines that all lead to the real subject, However the top one has the road leading at a different angle, and does not intersect the mountain perfectly.

The top style of shot is how I normally compose, But as a test I actively used the mountain lines and road in the bottom shot to focus directly on the mountain.

Pic an old shot related to my top "style" of not leading directly.

its the abstraction of the colors and shapes and the formal balance.

the dark green mountains make a V in which the brighter tree-less mountain sits, and all lines leat toward the subject.. just very good composition over all.

ppl keep saying the 2nd is good, but it's not very strong compositionally

also, the mountains being on either side of the frame kind of hold you in the picture.. the same can't be said for the 2nd one

First shot's definitely preferable. Although I do prefer the texture of the road in the second.

the lines draw your attention to the mountains but there's just not much there once your eyes get there. it could have been great.
also, i had a hard time not following the line. it was as if i couldn't look at anything else in the photo. i "had" to focus on the left hand side.

although the first one doesn't grab you and force you to look at a certain area, the contrast in colors make up for that.

i pick the first one solely because the mountains are more prominent.

Both great, first one is nicer. It reminds me of the cover for Kraftwerk's Autobahn.

first one is nice.

the second one is very mediocre IMO. Unbalanced, boring, and not even sharp.
