Its soft because you're shooting wide open (its 3.5-5.6?), generally stopped to f8 you will get sharp results out of any lens. Since 1/8000 is stupid fast, you could have easily stopped down.

As for the noise, what ISO were you at?

i was shooting at 600
yet some turned out with less noise than other

Better than the first pic
>>182646
looks underexposed.

try shooting at 1/500 to 1/1000 next time. It's fast enough to freeze action at a football game and gives you an extra 3-4 stops with which to close down the aperture and drop the ISO.

in b4 extrem fast shutter speed.

Awesome underexposure. 1/8000 on someone standing still. What the fuck were you thinking?

i wasn't thinking at all to be honest this was my first attempt at sports shooting

First things first.
I shot in Cameroon for a month with this lens + xti, and I got a lot of sharp pictures from f/8-f/11.
All other apertures where mushy, mushy, mushy.

Second. l2expose.

Here's an example of the best you can hope for.
I still have mine, but I never use it anymore.

Of course that shot is resized, etc, but 1:1, it's actually pretty pitiful. Avoid using it wide open, unless you plan to only post on the web at 72dpi.

Here's a part of a panorama w/ the same lens. Note the awesome sharpness (not)

In summary, if you want to shoot sharp, shoot f/8-f/11. If you want fast accurate AF, get another lens. I don't think this is a good lens for sports at all.

Also, I almost always shot with a tripod with this lens.

I can't think of anything else to add, so I'll let someone else berate your shitty exposure.

This shot is probably one of the best ones I got straight from camera. Extracted JPG from breezebrowser, unprocessed for posterity.
