That is not a normal amount of vignetting for a decent lens, even if it is old. Did you have a hood or something getting in the way?

Anon is right, your hood is too long or your lens is a POS and you need to shoot at a smaller aperture.

Ugh, stupid freakin' county. I want to move. :[

Did you guys know that the Noctilux vignettes for over 2 stops?

That's also a very highly specialized lens. Lots of compromises have to be made to get an f/1.0 lens. That's why you don't see one on every SLR.

Schneider makes a series of center-graduated neutral density filters that are specifically mated to ultra-wide angle large format lenses for the same reason. Old Goerz Hypergon ultra-wide LF lenses had a little metal pneumatically-activated star that spun in front of the lens to compensate for falloff. But those are also highly specialized lenses. Any remotely modern, remotely decent normal-ish lens for 35mm should not produce much viginetting. Particularly mid-80s Olympus primes.

This is an awesome thread.

What the hell is that thing?

A Goerz Hypergon 150mm lens that covers up to 11x16. It has a lot of light falloff, and when it was designed nobody could make an acceptable center-grad ND filter to compensate for it. Instead, Goerz installed the little metal star in front of the front element. It was set up so that you could flip it away from the lens, start your exposure, then flip it down on the lens for the rest. Air from a blower bulb connected to the little pipe on the left made the star spin so that it evenly reduced exposure across the center of the frame.

oh wow, comedy gold right there.

i mean, fuck, i was one of the guys arguing with DC in the last thread because i hate him. but holy fuck, that was one of the most juvenile, puerile, idiotic, poorly though-up attacks i have ever seen in my life. good job on being completely unfunny and useless.

but i guess now that school's out, we're going to get a lot of your kind of shit.

nah, that definitely wasn't sarcasm, that was just a poor attempt at humour

Should cover a hell of a lot more than that actually, the 90mm would cover 11x14.
I think they made them from 60 to 210, can't imagine what that 210 would cover.

Impressive lens. Though yes, I do have to agree about specialization and compromises.

true, i scanned some prints today and they look kinda like cross-processed lomo shots... which is only good if that's what you desire. in other words: i'm looking for a scanner that does film!
