To the people who use the s3is on a regular basis, what can you say about this camera? The good and the bad?
>> Anonymous
is dat sum ZoomLensReflex??

Screw the ZLRs... go with a decent SLR (removable/switchable lenses)

I have an S1 IS that I used for 2 years before I got an SLR. It was a great camera. No complaints except for the lens cap which easily fell off because it was only held on by weak suction. For the price, you really can't beat it.

I Have the S3 becuase i couldnt a full SLR yet but its depends on what your really using it for.

Macro is great
Noise is kinda grainy but i use high ISO cuz i dont have a tripod for it

The S3 IS is great, the 12x zoom really helps you to reach very distant places. Macro is great, especially the "supermacro"- thingy. Only thing that bothers is the graininess in the pictures. I take photos always with ISO 100 and 200 to avoid it as much as I can.

But all in all a great camera. The video-shooting is really something to be mentioned. The sound is great.

An SLR would provide better pictures than a prosumer, that I know. But as of now, I don't have the money to buy the lenses and other stuff needed for it.

From what I've read, the S3's a nice camera and it gets good reviews. I just wanted to get the opinion of people who have used it for some time already.

I don't think I'd be bothered much by the noise. I usually shoot when it's bright so high ISO isn't needed much.

How about images at 12x zoom? I've seen samples from Lumix' FZ50 and they look muddy (detail loss).

can you turn off the IS in the S3? For tripod-mounted shots :p
>> Anonymous
>>35329

i dont think it really has image stablazation, or if it does its not that great

Buy it. Just as good as an SLR for most things, but much easier to carry.

Only problems is the ISO range (80-800) leaves something to be desired as far as upper range, and the S2 went down to 50, and the change just bothers me.

Otherwise the perfect camera, through and through, for everyday carry. Durable as hell, too: I dropped it on pavement a few day ago, with the lens (with cap on) landing first. It rolled two meters or so. Only damage- and I mean only damage to anything at all- is a scuff mark on the lens cap.

>>35329
Yes, one can.

>>35368
O RLY? It has full image stabilization that can hold together a good image, even with an exposure a few seconds long.
>> Anonymous
>>35406

Oh, and one flaw, a bit less minor than the ISO thing: It doesn't do RAW. Otherwise, perfect everyday camera.
>> Anonymous
If it weren't for the plastic tripod thread & the lack of RAW capabilities, this would've been the perfect digital camera for enthusiasts.

I hope the S4 gets an improvement in these areas.

>>35414

WTF? My S1 IS has a metal thread. Are you sure they changed it to plastic on this one?
>> Anonymous
>>35417

Yus, plastic mount so there's a chance it'll wear out with time. They also did the same thing with some of their digicams so it sucks, imho.

I like just about everything about the camera, especially the flippable screen. I don't know much about cameras, and it wasn't hard to find out what everything does and start taking pictures with it with modified settings. Pic was taken by me with super macro mode.

I have the S2 and I love it. Wish I'd waited 'til I could get the S3 for the same price.

>>35268
Yeah, that kinda sucks. I think you can buy some sort of lens hood for the S2/S3 that you can attach a better lenscap to.

>>35418
I usually leave the tripod's quick-release plate attached to the camera itself, only removing it when I need to open the battery compartment. Do you think this will help prevent wear?

>>35419
At first I thought the flippable screen was little more than a gimmick, but I've actually found it quite useful at times.
