So, /p/, do you just take your camera with you and hope for cool shots, or do you set aside actual picture trips where you plan to take photos of this or that (or both).

I hardly pass by anything interesting most days, and I wonder if it would be good to set aside one day to visit somewhere interesting to take photos

Both. I pretty much always have a camera with me (usually my SLR, but I'll bring my little PowerShot A95 if I'm going somewhere where SLRs aren't practical/allowed), and sometimes I'll go out specifically looking for good pictures.

OP here. Any comments on my snapshot?
Yeah, you can see the hood, but I think it helps frame the shot (along with the piece of tree and piece of curb on either side)...

Or am I just crazy. :p

So why were you in Sheppard Pratt?

Hah, no. Bits of car in your frame only help if you're shooting pictures for a car company.

Also, the shot itself is pretty boring. It's an interesting little building, but a boring photo of an interesting building is still a boring photo. Sorry.

I believe I was at either GBMC or Towson State University (I refuse to call it Towson University) and got lost, couldn't find the way I came in, and came out that way. Always loved that building, so I snapped it.

I cropped it for a wallpaper, but it was missing that curve on the left and the tree on the right, as well as the hood. It wasn't bad, but I thought those bits helped. Maybe that's why I'm still an amateur. :)

If it's practical to have my backpack with me when I'm out and about, I'll take my SLR but if not I'll still keep an eye open for shots and make a trip back to get them.
