Hey, camera noob here.

Are there any DSLRs that can be hooked up to a computer and controlled from the computer? Preferably with an open protocol.

Pic unrelated.

a better question would be why would you want a slr if you're gonna control it through a computer

why would you want to control it through the computer...? You mean control the shooting/settings through the computer?

its pretty useful for product and macro shoots, on a tripod and inanimate subjects.

All Nikon dslr's can be controlled via USB using Camera Control Pro. Canon has a similar software also.

Can you control the zoom and other settings through that?

I'm trying to set up a computer-controlled photo system.

You can't change the zoom in any other way than by twisting the zoom-ring on the lens on any dSLR I've heard of.

everything except zoom, as thats a manual mechanical thing.

Pentax has some power-zoom lenses
i think you can preset your fav focal lenghts and stuff.

also the zoom lens will shrink to its smalest size on power off.

so, maybe you can?

I saw one of those lenses at a pawn shop here in town, it was $45 lol

>>143703
This isn't such a bad idea. It has the flexibility of a zoom, but you can stick to specific focal lenghts like with primes.
>> Anonymous
>>143712
Just like any other zoom lens, right?
>> Anonymous
>>143715

except this probably quite difficult to make it change FL once it's set

compared to a normal zoom
>> $19.99

it has disgusting optical quality!

no shit sherlock

Canon's newest DSLRs are the only ones so far that can feed live image to the computer (although the smoothness leaves much to be desired)

Camera Control pro for my Nikon d40 lets me auto focus and shoot, no manual I believe though.

What's with this faggotry lately? I\ve been seeing words like this or "Fucking owned" a lot more, it's kind of really pathetic. I thought 4chan wasn't for underage kids.
