This device is maybe going to be the bane of photographers the world over.
What it does:

Upon the detection of a flash within it’s field of view it fires its own flash which projects a slide backwards through the camera which super imposes arbitrary images onto the subject in the other photographers frame. The flashes happen so close together that the fulgurator is undetectable to the untrained eye.
Implications:

Imagine the things advertising companies will super impose on the frame of photographers. Blatant logo fulgurs or perhaps subtle ones which are only distinguishable under direct scrutiny.

The inventor, one german art student Julius von Bismarck however, is not an evil genius. He has patented this device and does not want to see it fall into the hands of heartless corporations.

This is it, photography's finished.

This guy is an asshole.

How many achievements do you have to earn and with which class to unlock the Fulgurator?

I've been reading TF2 boards constantly for weeks and it seems like the Heavy update is next.. will this replace his Minigun or the Shotgun?

yeah b/c everyone uses on-camera flash at dusk to photograph things.

wont affect me in the slightest since i use flash about .001% of the time

I'd like to see this device used at press conferences. CNN getting shit like a picture of Bush with "DUNCE" superimposed on his forehead = epic win.
>> Anonymous
Very cute. So maybe it means people won't end up taking the same shitty photos of the same downtown building every time, or just not use a flash.

I'd set one up at the standard spots and say "This is a really boring spot. Try over there ->"

great. somebody invented the picture-fucker. wouldn't it have been easier for this guy to just piss in people's coffee or otherwise adulterate other various minutea of people's lives? who decided that we need a device that rapes your mind and camera equipment?
>> eku !8cibvLQ11s
I'm so going to build this thing! Looks sooo great!

If I had a device that allowed me to piss in people's coffee from a distance without them noticing, I'd SO use it.

Who uses flash's for anything other than events or action photography?

Maybe the ODD bit of fillflash.. and if they know to do that, they can sure notice whats going on and go and smash the thing up

tl:dr ... Buy a tripod or a prime

Are you familiar with tourists and point and shoots at all?

Didn't think so.

Jesus your a moron...

Who gives a fuck about tourist with point and shoots? thell prob never get printed out anyway and just just laugh at it later.

but for it been "the bane of photographers the world over", my point still stands

Watch the video...he's mainly using it on tourists. If you're going to call someone an idiot, get your facts straight. You're too freaking reactive to everything.

>Who uses flash's for anything other than events or action photography?

Plenty of people do. I don't, but lots of people do. David Alan Harvey, for instance. I wouldn't want to see an ad for a crappy sitcom or deoderant plastered across this Carnival photo he did.

So.. Events???

>>215686

i am familiar seeing as how i live in NYC. Their pictures are gonna look like shit anyway with a P&S flash poorly lighting up 1/100th of the building or structure theyre shooting.. might as well have an interesting image in it to keep it from being a totally boring and shitty shot.

TAKING a photo is perfectly legal. PROJECTING a photo is not, ESPECIALLY when it's for commercial use.

Companies wont be able to do this, esp w/o a license (i.e. in a designated area for a specific time period).

This invention is just novelty and will never be a serious problem.

You guys are completely missing the point here. It's a gadget built by a bored art student to mess with peoples pictures. I don't think it's supposed to INFILTRATE ALL PHOTOGRAPHS.

I'd also like to point out that if you think the only use for a flash is for fill, events, or action...I lol'd.

I wouldn't call shooting street at an event "event photography," but here, satisfied?

Also Bruce Gilden.

Doesn't patenting something mean you can't commercially reproduce that something without licence?

>I don't think it's supposed to INFILTRATE ALL PHOTOGRAPHS.

Advertising is more insatiable for penetration than the Borg are for assimilating technology and people. This guy will have bids for license or purchase within a week, if he hasn't already. You're trusting this same "one bored art student" with this technology which any ad company would like to get their hands on.

Also, I guarantee the lawyers this guy could hire would be nothing compared to the lawyers anyone who takes the idea and makes a slightly different implementation of it could hire.

Or Red-Eye Reduction
Or CLS where there are preflash's
Or if you knew it was there, whats to stop you from trying to burn out their flash bulb by firing something like the SB-800 in RPT mode.
