Fuji Finepix S9000 Anonymous
Does anyone have any personal experience with this camera? Or is there some better product for me?

-I want a camera that is somewhere between good and semi-professional.
-I "explore" functions.
-I want manual zoom!
-8 mega pixels minimum
-I'm semi cheap, so nothing over $500

Using batteries is a big drawback for that camera, as well as the SDcard, which only works in Fuji products.

probably the closest you're going to get without getting an entry level SLR

>Using batteries is a big drawback for that camera

It's not a drawback. AA rechargeables are quite heavy, but they're cheap, sold everywhere, don't fail when exposed to cold, and Fuji can't screw you up by discontinuing the proprietary Li-ion batteries just when your old one fails.

HEY!!! i have the s9000. the batteries last WAY longer than you expect. i'm always amazed how long they last. i bought some "rayovac 'hybrid'" batteries, they're rechargable and they are perfect. just charge em overnight and the cam can sip on them all day. it has really really good macro and the zoom is great! you really wont be sorry if you get it. i highly HIGHLY rec it. you can't change the lens but its a very very flexible one so you can do lots of different types of photography. get it. don't even think about it.

S9000 or an used entry-level DSLR.
The advantages and disadvantages of these options were discussed over 9000 times already, and you can probably find a dozen articles about that on the internets.

I have been using S9100 by almost two months. It's good camera, with quite good lens. Of course in prosumer class. Perfect for begging...

>> you can't change the lens

Then its fail.

...or you could get an entry-level Pentax K100D DSLR with 18-55 for $400 after a $50 mail-in rebate. It also uses AA batteries, but it takes SD cards which are cheap nowadays.

The other day, I was shooting some pictures with my girlfriend. I was using my Rebel XTi, with my 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 much of the time, she was using her S5IS.

Towards the end of the day, she told me she wished she could use a big telephoto like I had.

I had to explain to her that her S5IS (which has an equivalent length of 432mm at the long end) actually had more telephoto than mine.

The S5's lens is faster, too.
Girlfriend was probably making subtle sexual innuendo which you completely destroyed by correcting her with specs.
OTOH, maybe you're not interested in her taking you with a strap-on. You're on 4chan, though, so the odds of that being true are pretty slim.

>batteries, blah XD card blah blah blargh

dude, you add the price of the card and rechargeable batteries - if you haven't got them already - onto the camera

and being bothered about the card is gay - like you don't own a card for every device that uses one anyway, and like they're not obsolete by lunchtime too
