yo /p/,
i've got a konica minolta 5d, the one in the picture, and some time ago i bought an external Sony flash.
being a poor student i could only afford the cheaper variant of the sony flash, and it can't rotate horizontaly.
now the thing is i need to do some photography where i'm going to bounce the flash in the ceiling and it has to be a portrait photo (shortest sides as bottom and top of picture) and i don't know how to do this since i can't rotate my flash towards the ceiling while holding the camera for a portrait shot.
i tried firing the flash wireless but then i need to have the onboard flash active, is there any way i can override that and fire the external flash wireless while not firing the onboard flash?

Black tape in front of your onboard flash.

won't that get awfully hot for the flash?

The flash you have has now been replaced with a cheap flash that does rotate the head. The easiest way to do it is to sell yours and buy a new one :P

or do this

i believe the way the KM/sony flashes work for wireless is the onboard flash acts as a trigger. basically, it doesn't effect exposure at all. Try for yourself- turn wireless flash on in the camera, and cover your external flash with your hand.

It should come out completely dark or somewhere close.

nah, mine triggers even when the flash is covered. but anywho, i found a new rotatable flash pretty cheap so i'll try to sell the one i have now instead.

can't you just get a pc sync or something and hold it in your hand beside the camera?

if your hands are big enough you can hold both and still use the controls.

but its autofocus, so you really don't even need two hands.

why u do this?

sonyminolta dont use pc sync (only the 7D and A700 supports it) if you are going to respond at least make sure you know _the basics_
