what the fuck kind of criticism is this? you don't always have to have only one point of focus that you should be looking at. i think this one looks fine.
>> Honest So You Dont Have To Be !9UISPtwBPo
>>282118

then you have no clue what your talking about.

I am fully aware you don't always need one clear point of focus, it can work it more, but the fact is, you need to understand and stick to the simple rules, before you can brake them, and its clear this guy dosnt know them all.

You honestly thing this photos good???

where dose you eye stay?? for me, it goes from the lights, to the backlit sign, to the buildings, to the water, to the backsit sign, and then where ever i look, my eyes go back to the sign......

this is VERY poor composition with little regard for what effect it will have on the viewer....

I think everything about it is excellent. The colors are very comforting for some reason, and the location is amazing.

Also, you're not going to get very interesting photos if you "follow the rules" of photography or having a "point of focus". Just do what looks good to you. No one besides idiots on /p/ will ever judge a photo by where their eye moves.

Yes, ok, there's too much dof, but who gives a fuck?
That actually makes it more unreal for me. This, if anything, is an incredibly scary shot because of your processing, but:

1. If feels slightly off: tilt like .01 to the right, bro.
2. You cut off shit on the left. You can't cut off light sources, it looks jarring.

I saw this scene in my head as letter boxed, so feel free to add more to the left.

3. I like your sky, it looks puckish like the film base to fucked up E6. uh, but nothings really going on there. You don't have to take all your shots standing up.

So, the principle is sound, the execution could be a little smoother. It's not shit. 6/10, but no +fav.

Honest So You Dont Have To Be

Makes some good points. Seriously, the image shows potential..but that's it. You've got a great scene, great colours, great potential...but composition fucked it for me..badly..

the amount of dof is okay but it needs some form of focal point. Not just none. I actually feel like the image is flat.
You almost had leading lines, but failed to use them :/

Also:
"Its representing the busyness of modern day life and its impact on society and nature"

IT REPRESENTS SOMETHING IT MUST BE GOOD, BUTTERFLYS REPRESENT FREEDOM, INSTA-ART!!!!

"first graduate elementary school and then talk,"

Pointing out grammar and spelling? Your point is moot.

"Also, you're not going to get very interesting photos if you "follow the rules" of photography or having a "point of focus"."

Actually the rules are what make photographs interesting, rule of thirds, zone system, etc.
Are you disagreeing with every famous photographer (minus what, like 3 who were famous for doing the opposite).
you're too dumb for this board if you don't think 'following the rules' will make a good photo.
If you post your favourite photograph I'll tell you every rule it followed.
I'm thinking you might even just be a troll :/

somehow i prefer knowledge of composition over knowledge of spelling on a photography forum.

i think the idea is nice, but the composition could need some tightening up. personally i'd cut the entire building to the right with the bright sign, there's no reason for it to be there and it steals focus from the row of lights who would originally be a nice way to move the eyes of the viewer into the photo.
>> Anonymous
op here, oh mah gah.

yeah the composition is jewish, a better crop and some dof would be nice, I can agree with that. Wish I could have stood in the canal.

As for the color, to each their own I guess. I personally think I got the look I was going for, although a little darker foreground would have been nice.

Thanks for all the cc guys

Hate to wade into this mess, but oh well.

It isn't so much the DOF that threw it for me, but the building on the right side of the frame. Crop that out and you lose that sign, which others have pointed out as a serious problem as well.

I'm also not too sure about the exposure - meaning the loss of detail toward the lower right. You could have exposed this a little longer (which would have also blown out the sky,) or tried to fiddle with some off camera lighting from the other walkway.

If I were shooting this I would have let the person near the third light on the right side come down to the closest light and then cropped the building on the right out.

Rotate camera, etc.

I'm sure the /p/rofessionals will flame me for this, as I'm sure I've made some sort of heretical remark in here.
>> BurtGummer !!RRMHFHglFsy
I like it, my eye gos straight to the buildings, the sign is a little bright but not distractingly so.

Makes me feel like im in the matrix.

A+ etc.

Jesus Christ, /p/ is full of fuckheads who took a photography class in highschool and think they can come around spitting technique at everyone. This is not a photo thats going to win some art show or be published in a magazine. Seriously, lay off the bagging. I'm going to make this the wallpaper on my phone with a bit of editing.

My favorite object in that photo is the orange cone. I'd dodge the sign though. I don't mind the color, its cool. And I don't agree with people arguing its a clusterfuck, I like that in this picture, especially it being a city.

I like it.

Does need a bit of clockwise rotation - it feels a bit wonky. Also that sign on the right probably is a bit distracting. And yeah, slightly tighter crop on the left to get rid of that half of a light.
