Needs moar HDR.
The HDR makes the sky look interesting but the water looks just way too fake for me.

It also needs a crop somewhere but I'm not entirely sure where. My crop doesn't look right to me for some reason. Not only this but I feel it looks better in black and white.

Just my opinion.

Hell, monochrome > this crap

It's well composed and can be cleaned up into a stencil or a pointless cultural icon.

I'm going to get killed for saying this. HDR is great only if it is used correctly.

^^There's a good example of HDR being used decently and effectively. It's kinda subtle (sorta) and the halo effect that the HDR tends to give is at as minimal as possible. Not only this but the colors aren't extremely overly saturated in some areas as presented in the photo you just showed.

Try taking the picture you just posted and have it not an HDR and start doing basic edits on the picture you posted such as color corrections if needed etc. Composition wise, the picture isn't too bad.

I know how tempting it is to put HDR on all of your photos but keep in mind that it will hurt pictures greatly with it mostly more than helping it.

I don't think anyone denies it is possible to be a useful tool, it's just overwhelmingly shitty right now as people go overboard with the latest fad.

If HDR is done well it is hard to tell anything has been done until you realise the dynamic range it has captured or you are experienced in the difficulties in shooting that sort of scene.

Erm. Correction on my part, the example I used on showing better HDR, I don't believe is an HDR. It's IR.

Just because you can move the slider all the way to the right doesn't mean you should. Subtle HDR works well. I did it here just to get the windows out but left the sky as it sort of was.

It can be both. I looked at that shot and I'm pretty sure it's an HDR. It's well done (IE-not obvious), but it's definitely an HDR.

Protip: Check out the tree on the right.

Most people don't understand what HDR should be used for. Vincent does plenty of stuff with prints, and uses HDR to preserve colors for prints. That's pretty much the only thing anyone should be using it for. Anything else = shitty insta-art.

How I feel about HDR:

It's like taking a good amount of acid and as soon as it kicks in, Stanley Kubrick pops out of nowhere, throws your ass into a space pod, and launches you to Pluto where you encounter multiple colors coming at you vertically and horizontally just like 2001: A Space Odyssey. Then the trip goes bad and your face is melting off and as you try to calm your self down, David Lynch begins a conversation through your space pod comm link about how EraserHead is about the Human Condition.

Yes, it's that bad.
