Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8-4 DG AF Lens for Canon EOS / EF

Thoughts on this lens? I want to use it for sports shots..

It says Aspherical and mentions fisheye in the description.. does that mean it's a stupid warped image that skaters use all the time?

OP Here, This is the exact description...

This Sigma standard zoom lens has a large aperture of F2.8 at 28mm focal length and yet it is compact and lightweight, with an overall length of 62.5mm (2.5») and weight of 255g. (9oz.). This digitally optimized diagonal fisheye lens is equipped with a new multi-layer coating technology that reduces both flare and ghosting. This compact, large aperture zoom lens is ideal for digital and 35mm SLR cameras.

Thanks for the response worthy of a scholar.

Anyway, I know that aspheric lenses help somewhat but aren't necessarily better blah blah blah but all I'm looking for is a fast lens with a fair focal range and this one is really inexpensive. Will it take normal aspect pictures, or is it all warped like the viewing hole in a door?

You should buy this, the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom

I would love to, but alas it is 12x the price of this POS sigma, and I just want something to take the shots for journalistic purposes.

check sigma's 24-60 f2.8
Its a constant f2.8, and dirt cheap, also considered to be a great sharp lens, even better than their more expensive 24-70 f2.8's

(Amazon.com has them for just over $200 new)

>This digitally optimized diagonal fisheye lens

Some copy writer really, really messed up.

Guess no one noticed and he still has his job, though: the copy is still on Sigma's website.

Ebay and amazon.

I've already got a 50mm 1.8 II and I really like it, will that be suffice for basketball? or should I get a wider angle? I'll have access to courtside every game for any shots I need.

Depends on if you want close shots or not. You would need to be at the front anyhow to get a decent shot.

This is front sports page stuff, so yeah, close up would be nice. I'd hate to crop it and reduce ploxels.
