Hey!
I've been experimenting a bit on HDR-photography lately. Using Photomatix an Photoshop mostly. Does anyone have any tips? I tend to get s bit of noise in my pictures, and sometimes hard edges will duplicate, even if on a tripod.

BTW: Does anyone use Lightroom for making HDR-pictures, or ever create faked HDR from RAW-files? Is the result good at all?

Thanks for responses:)

Cool.. I'm not a really experimented photographer so sorry if i got things wrong.., :)

I read somewhere that you could get similar result from a single raw file using some kind of technique... I was wondering because taking pictures of moving objects or portraits can be quite tricky..

Im not trying to be hip, not a macfag or trying to troll, i just want to learn more about the technique!

i posted this in an previous thread, but you can make HDR looking images in LIGHTROOM. this is what i do, although it doesnt look authentic at all.

here is the exact levels if you want to make a preset, which i would recommend, rather then doing this every time.

fill light:100% (varies)
recovery:100%
blacks:30%
contrast:30%
clarity:60%
saturation: -20%

pic related, its an example, it looks a little too cartoony because its not my photo

You can make HDRS from a single Shot, with the exposure changed up and down in three seperate saved images, of either Jpeg OR Raw... but you have to understand that they HATE hdr in here, and they hate the mentioned technique EVEN more..

GO to Flickr and check out their examples, then experiment on photomatix, cleaning up the image with photoshop.

to add to the shit storm....
best way imho is

take 2 exposures - not 50 million
put them on layers in photoshop, partially erase the shadows on the top layer, letting the shadow detail from the bottom layer show through....

bottom layer = brighter layer
top layer = darker layer

just giving another way to do it...

OP here! Well I do understand they hate it, and I dont like it too much myself (considering most of it looks the same), but it is with HDR as it is with most other techniques; if you don't go overkill, and use it together with other techniques in a creative way, you can get new, and great results.

btw, anyone notice how the preview in Photomatix' tone mapping plug in looks different compared to after you apply the settings?
