UV filters angrylittleboy !wrJcGUHncE
Will there be any noticeable loss in image quality if I decide to buy a cheap $6 UV filter? I'm just going to use it to protect my lens (and I'm too lazy to pop the cap every now and then)

No. Just make sure it's clean.

Very very very cheap knock-off ebay filters will likely be crap glass in a crap metal or plastic ring that might have various problems like distortions, improper threads that could damage your lens, etc associated with it. If you want a cheap UV filter, the brand-name hoya green series filters don't go for over $20 for most threads (usually ~$10 for <60mm) and most camera stores or pawn shops sell off loads of used but still good UV filters for <$10.

I'd stay away from ebay knock-off garbage if that's where you're getting it.

not really e-bay, but I found a store which sells cheap sunpaks.

I got mine for 10 dollars. It works fine. If 4 dollars means a great increase in quality, it's well worth it.

Ah, Sunpak isn't that bad. I was more talking about the either no-name or in-house manufactured crap that's out there on ebay. Sunpak is a good way to go for a budget filter.

how is the sunpak brand anyway? I bought a polarizer from them for $19.00, good buy ?
