This is not a positive. All that means is that you didn't try to improve the shot like any normal photographer would. Don't be into the bizarre elitism that a scant few egoists shout at the top of their lungs.

The shot itself isn't that bad, but it is lacking a few areas.
>Exposure Time 1/250 sec
>F-Number f/8.0
Quite clearly you had plenty of light to work with. You need to crank that aperture till you have the whole flower in focus.

As for post processing, see attached image; masked the bottom left and top right darker, popped open levels and gave you more true blacks, and removed piece to make the image more simplistic. The reasoning behind this is to give the photo a nicer flow for eye movement, giving you a decent aesthetic appearance as is the goal for most flower images.

Here's the workspace to give you starting point to start your own post processing.

Also please resize images when posting them on /p/ with a maximum height of 800px or max width of 1000px. This will fit properly in most user's screens and load faster.

Sorry if i tried to seem elitist. Didn't mean to.
The editing job you did looks a lot better.

I've actually just recently started working with aperture, and have been trying to improve it. Would you recommend (sp?) like a 24 aperture and about a 1/100 exposure?

Best flower shot I've seen in a long time. Though a few things.

1. RESIZE
2. Focus is off.
3. Needs a little more contrast.

How did you move the minimize/maximize/close buttons to the right and how did you turn them into bubbles?

Thank you very much.
I'm trying to get my work out there.

I did realize in retrospect that I totally screwed up my focus. As for more contrast, what would add more?

I have no idea? Start at f16 and use your dof preview button to see if you have everything in focus and adjust accordingly. Once you have your aperture, then set your shutter to get a neutral gray exposure, though for this type of shot you may want to over expose by a stop or two. With raw and the excellence of raw editors, often it's best to shoot in such a way as to give you most digital information and the use an editor to take the photo where you want it to go.

I have Photoshop 6.0, and idk if I can convert raws with it.
What would be best for editing raws?

mac default?

>>282620
6.0? I don't think adobe supports the d40 raw in 6.0

I think gimp would be your best bet in terms of free software, but I am not versed in freeware. I haven't used the CS4 raw editor yet, but CS3's editor is amazing.

I haven't looked for a CS3 DL yet.
Any good place to get it?
