How do I improve the visual quality of landscape shots? Should I use a filter in photoshop? (I have a CyberShot, not a SLR).

Where in Japan is this?

I went through the second one also for good measure. Dropped in a new sky, removed the sewage-look from the water and did the usual shadow/highlight, curves- and saturation adjustement. I also second the motion of asking where these photos were taken.

Amanohashidate, in northern Kyoto-fu. One of the "three best sights" in Japan, along with those rocks with trees, and the floating tori near hiroshima. This place really kinda blows, tbh.

I had a feeling this was somewhere in Kansai. Although yeah, it does look pretty rural (which I liked a lot more than the busy metropolis aura of Tokyo or Osaka).

Thank you again for your help. I find it sort of funny that you put in a whole new sky though. I will stick with the original when I attempt to make them look better. I appreciate your help with this.

Yep, that's right. It wasn't too bad, but it wasn't mind-blowing either. To be honest, I had more fun on the chair lift and feeding the seagulls (and the two hawks that joined in).

<-- Chair lift.

Here's the birds, just for fun.

The hawk would dive for the crisp when you threw it in the air and catch it with its talons.

It does blow hard. The thing that really blows my mind is that if you go about ten miles west of there, you get to some of the most beautiful coastline in western Japan, but literally nobody does.

Pic related.

Hey, sure thing, pal. I won't usually insert a new sky or do compositing work when editing, but I think the image deserved to be "knocked up another notch" for that complete and heavenly look. Speaking of Photoshopping, if you wanna get good at it this is my advice: "Practice makes perfect" and by all means check out all the tutorials @ the radiantvista-site; I learned alot from it.
