I just can't get the face look natural, yet have contrast in B/W. Any help?
For example, in this photo my face and hands look very dull, maybe even a bit plastic. Meh don't like. Any other way to fix this "problem" besides adding a small amount of film grain filtering?

More liek this. Except with less post-processing. Added huge amount of contrast, tweaked curves, added film grain, dodged and burned here and there...

What are you using for lighting?

Might want to try an orange 21 on the "sunny" WB preset and shoot at 800. Try it before you call me crazy.
I'm not sure how canon DSLR meters liek filters, so you might want to meter with it off and add +1 2/3EV.
but yeah, maybe your lighting sucks. Don't look at your LCD to suss it out. Find a tree line or alley with lots of light but none that's direct. Go near the spot where you can see the line of hard light. Stick your hand out slightly cupped and walk around your hand, keeping it in the same spot. When you see it, you'll shit bricks. You don't need overcast days, or windows, those are just times where nice light is easier to find, it's always around.
Proper exposure is one thing. Finding excellent *quality* of light is key!
