Olympus E-30 Anonymous
>> Olympus is about to fill your niche with the upcoming $1,299 E-30, a shooter that sits neatly betwixt the two in most stats despite actually having a higher megapixel sensor than either.

>> it too offers in-body image stabilization and Live View, borrowing the 2.7-inch LCD from the E-520 while snagging the 11-point auto-focus function from the E-3.

i think it's great that it has the same 11 point AF system as the E-3 but too bad it's only $200 cheaper, the E-3 is $1,499 and is a full fledge professional body

they should've made this for $999, makes much more sense

$1299 = fail, unless they give out free vertical grips or flashes like with the E-3.

Engadget fail. Way to selectively quote.

>If you're looking for an Olympus DSLR but don't have the bank for a $1,499 E-3, yet couldn't be seen with a pedestrian $599 E-520, Olympus is about to fill your niche with the upcoming $1,299 E-30

The E-520 is so pedestrian to me.

>>287299

niche, there's a huge fucking gap from going to $600 to $1200 and then $1500
>> Anonymous
>>287299

$599 vs. $1299 still looks like a fukken huge price gap to me. And if a person is willing to spend $1299 on an Olympus, chances are he'll easily cough up an additional $200 to get superior viewfinder and weatherproofing.

Art Filters
Enables special artistic effects to be created directly in the camera. The following Art Filters are available in the Olympus E-30:

>> Pop Art: Enhances colours, making them stronger and more vivid to create high-impact pictures that express the happy, light-hearted feeling of the pop art style.
>> Soft Focus: Creates a soft tone which gives pictures an ethereal, otherworldly atmosphere. It renders pictures as though they were veiled in heavenly light, without obscuring details such as the hair or flower petals.
>> Pale & Light Colour
>> Grainy Film
>> Pin Hole

It looks like a nice camera but for a bit more money I would get the fucking almost water-proof E-3

Look at that viewfinder. Close to D40/60, bigger than in A300,350 C300/350/400/100D or D50/70.
Amazing.
>> ?suomynonA ??????????
hm yes, the price difference with the E3 doesn't really make this much of an appeal I'd say.

it's not four-thirds is it?

It`s 4/3, what did you except APS-C and new glass line-up ?
Small viewfinder, 12mpix on small sensor and price of C 40D.

The only reasonable camera in 4/3 is E-3, and considering it`s price, E-30 won`t get lots of market.

There's not much difference, actually. And every camera above $1000 has a significantly better viewfinder. (Though to be fair, 4/3 viewfinders do appear slightly bigger at the same effective size because of the different aspect ratio)

E-30: 98% * 1.02 / 2.0 = 0.50x effective size in 35mm terms
E-4xx/5xx: 95% * 0.92 / 2.0 = 0.44x
Rebel XT: 95%*0.8/1.6 = 0.48x
Rebel XSi: 95%*0.87/1.6 = 0.52x
Nikon D60: 95%*0.8/1.5 = 0.51x
Sony A350: 95%*0.74/1.5 = 0.47x

E-3: 100% * 1.15 / 2.0 = 0.58x
Nikon D300: 100% * 0.94 / 1.5 = 0.63x
Canon 50D: 95% * 0.95 / 1.6 = 0.56x
Pentax K20D: 95% * 0.95 / 1.5 = 0.60x

And to make everyone feel inferior:
Nikon FG (yes, a film camera): 92% * 0.86x / 1.0 = 0.79x

The E-3 is reasonable only for those that actually need its unique features (tilt-swivel screen, extreme ruggedness, the ability to get 24 to 400mm covered with excellent glass at less than 3kg and $4000).
Actually, the E-510 was their best-selling camera because it was very cheap and out-featured everyone else at the time. As for now, the E-420/520 weren't much of an improvement, but the price was bumped up nonetheless, which makes me wonder if I should recommend Olympus to anyone.

Pic kinda related.

Lol, I actually need to get a tiny lens like that for my D2X. I had to bamboozle my way into a press pass at a recent drift event, because security jackasses were turning away anyone with a lens more than 1" long at the gate (read - any SLR), despite regulations only mentioning a ban on camcorders. I managed to get a pass, but that's not always gonna happen, so I'd like to get a tiny 1/2" pancake just to spite them.

that old Nikon 28mm F/2.8 manual focusing is extremely micropenisish
