Hey /p/eople. I'm thinking about buying a Nikon F55. I've never actually owned anything more than a 2$ camera so any tips and tricks would be nice. Also, it's second hand, so should I be watching out for something, like battery, lens etc?
Pic very related.

A good F100 = Sex. The Nikon film cameras are cheap, so you could get something decent on the cheap as well. Aim for an F100, if not.. one of the older F's is good, like the F2,3 etc. You might even find a nice cheap DSLR as well. Happy hunting!

i own a F60, it was my first AF SLR camera, and i still love it to bits.
if its anything like my F60, you can use almost any nikon lens, and any speedlite. the only downside is that there is no preview button, but i do a little trick is to unmount the lens by a 1/4 of a turn and set the aperture ring to the value you want ;)
battery if the same as mine is 2x CR123 and they seem to last forever.
its a basic camera, but great to use.

I would really suggest an N90s/F90s or F100. If you're low on dough, even the oldternet N8008s/F801s is a better choice than the F55.
OTOH, if you can pick it up for a song, might as well do it up.

Well, i've honestly never shot an F55 before, so i'm not sure, but if it works for your needs, then it should be good. Before you buy it, see if you can "borrow" it and take it out for a couple days to shoot with it and see how it fits.

In all honesty, i'm going to have to recommend the n60 or the n80 over the n90-- the 80, although slightly older, is actually better than the newer n90 (at one time, i was considering buying the 90, but a very close friend who owns a camera store let me know that the 80 was the better by. I went for it, have never regretted since).

It's a matter of opinion, I don't think what you gain (better/faster AF, better G-lens compatibility) is worth what you lose (metering with AI lenses, slightly lower build quality, CR123 batts)
If you're not interested in MF lenses and aren't going to beat the hell out of your rig, yeah N80 is a better choice. The N80 came out years (10?) after the N90, not the other way around.
lol model numbers, in chronological order(iirc)->
n8008, n90, n70, n60, f100, n80

I just pulled out the old streetsweeper-90, I'm going to wager that the n80's AF is "smarter"(more AF points, better tracking) not necessarily faster. I forgot about the neck-snapping torque this motor has.
