canon SLRs with 2 digits aren't entry level. They're semi-pro. Entry level cameras are denoted by 3 digits

canon only makes garbage, except for a really old canon rangefinder i saw that was pretty good.
the rest is garbage
i promise

because you wont be able to take good pictures otherwise

seriously, just buy yourself a rebel xt. They are like 450 dollars new without a kit lens, and then spend the extra money to get yourself a better lens

I can assure you that a better lens now is worth it over a better body if this is your first dslr.

The lens can migrate along when you upgrade the body later, and you'll be used to the functions and whatnot.

I SHIT YOU NOT.

Alright then. What would be a good slr for a beginner. Yes, I am a noob. But I want a good foundation to build upon. My price range is low at the moment. I'm just looking for a body right now. ( not op btw)

My local camera shop sells used equipment. But I'm not sure what to get.

Look. A big problem most beginnings make, is that they take all the money they saved up for a camera and blow it on as good of a body as they can.

And then they get really confused as to why this great camera body takes shitty pictures WITH A SHIT KIT LENS.

Look. Buy yourself a rebel xt. DIRT FUCKING CHEAP.

Then, go buy yourself the Canon EF-S 60 mm F2.8 macro lens and the canon 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS zoom. In this way you get an excellent macro and an very good zoom, and will be able to take some great pictures.

SPEND MORE MONEY ON THE LENSES THAN ON THE BODY.

I was planning on it. But my price range at the moment is 800. So even if I wanted to I can't go out and buy a nice lense. I wanted to pick something up before a convention next week, since I was tired of using my sister's old rebel x.

a quick look on amazon shows that the 60mm is 390.68

and the 28-135mm is 363.99

So both lenses are just under 800 dollars *new*.

If you shop for them on ebay I'm sure you can get them for a hell of alot cheaper. Same goes for the rebel xt.

It might be possible to squeeze them both into your budget.

Also, if you want to buy them both new, get the 28-135 mm lens plus the canon 50mm 1.8 for around 90 dollars. The 50mm 1.8 is an *amazing* deal for its price, capable of taking veyr sharp pictures at virtually pro levels.

Then find yourself a rebel xt with the rest of the money you have.

The 50mm f1.8? My local camera shop has a used one for 20 bucks. I'm going to go there tommorow and see what else they have that isn't listed on their site.

Any other recommendations that they may have listed?

I'm talking about the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, but if you can get the original one EVEN BETTER.

The newer "mark II" has *slightly* faster autofocusing I believe, but it also has a cheap plastic body and won't last as long.

The first ones were metal and will last you much longer.

Definately buy it if you can get it for that cheap. Just make sure it works well. It is supposed to take *very* sharp pictures.

ah shit, close but no cigar. Those are "FD" lenses. They won't work with the new canon digital lenses.

You need the canon 50mm 1.8 EF lens. The FD will be useless for you.

That's Canon *FD* 50/1.8, it's not compatible with EOS cameras including 40D and Rebel XT.

And I don't see anything too interesting in that list, it's either obscure/obsolete stuff or it's not cheap.
