Dear /p/
I have a problem.
I love lomography and I love polaroids (Don't worry I'm still big on digital cameras and new age technology). I think the way they capture color is amazing, the way they have a "classic" photography feel to them (if that makes sense).

The problem is however, I hate the fact that everyone these days thinks that taking pictures with polaroids and taking pictures with lomo cameras automatically makes them cool and much more different from other people. Ultimately leading in the saturation of the quality of lomo and polaroid photography.

Since polaroid is going to stop making film, and lomo is getting killed culturally by ever kid that wears tight pants, has a shitty little kid beard, and listens to music they think no one knows about. Should I just give up on both and start editing my pictures to look like Lomo in photoshop?

:(

Dude I feel the same exact way. They think taking pictures with polaroids are indie and just ruin the whole beauty behind polaroid pictures.

NEWSFLASH: Pretentious people like you are equally annoying. "Blah blah, I like it for the saturation and the 'classic' feel" is the same thing that the people you're crucifying for it like it.

If you want to shoot with a Polaroid or a Lomo, shoot with a Polaroid or a Lomo. It doesn't matter if there are a lot of Lomos and Polaroids floating around, if you can actually compose a decent picture with one then it will stand out. It sounds like you're just upset because it's not unique and "indie" enough any more for your personal tastes.

And for the record, I shoot with a Holga occasionally and I semi-collect older cameras, I've never run into a problem with any of them because "think taking pictures with (X) are indie and just ruin the whole beauty behind (X) pictures"

Like Anon said, get a better film camera so you can have the richness of color you want without relying on the crutch of having a broken camera to make your photos interesting. Pic related: Velvia.

OP, why the fuck are you shooting polaroid? shoot some REAL film and put your *ahem* skills to use.
Why don't you try some real wicked shit like infrared film..
>> Warren !!JL+uuUHRNlZ
Use the materials that work for you. Fuck what anyone else thinks, says, or does. When your stock of Polaroid runs out, find another way to get the look you like. If that means doing it digitally in post, so be it. The important thing is that you not worry about the hipsters and just do the work that's important to you.

OP you are shooting polaroid for the same reason indiefags are..
there's no technical advantage of using polaroid compared to other better films. You can get MUCH better looking film with more saturation etc (velvia 50, provia 400x, etc)

You are shooting polaroid because you irrationally think it's somehow better than shooting anything else, whether you justify it with personal feelings (feels classical) or technical reasons (more saturated/grainy)... these reasons are irrational (especially the personal reasons)..

Ask yourself.. "Why am I shooting polaroid instead of any other form of taking photos??"
Do you really have a better reason than an indiefag would?

Uh if we were all shooting stuff that was objectively "better" we'd all be shooting full frame digital. The point of shooting film is to get the "look" that you want, and if OP likes the look of Polaroid stuff more than he likes Velvia, then so be it.

ITT: People worshipping Velvia (and REAL FILM) who haven't shot it. It's just another fucking film. You know who worships Velvia? Ken Rockwell - and even he knows that he likes it for the saturation and other people might not.

Read the OP's post next time. OP doesn't seem to know what he wants except for his friends to think he's unique.

Lomography is bullshit.

Photography with an LC-A is decent. I don't understand any rationale behind it though, because LC-A's now cost over $150 through the nazi-like Lomography cult. It's definately NOT worth that much.

It's also worth noting that there is nothing about the Lomo that makes it capture camera better than any better camera. Any camera can shoot slides and/or have them cross processed. The only "unique" effect possibly caused by a Lomo is the vignette, which isn't really worth $150+

The Olympus XA2 is pretty much an LC-A without the price or the bullshit propaganda. Don't shoot the camera just because it's a LOMO.

Oh yeah, and make sure your pictures are actually thought out and well-composed. "Oooh pretty colors" doesn't really seem to pacify /p/.

But if you like doing it, who the fuck cares about the other people? I shoot with a Holga every once in awhile, and I don't care how many other people do.

Lol wut? The lens is much better, faster, it shoots 3:2 135 film and not 4:3 120, and it has a variable, automatic exposure, not the fixed exposure the Holga has. Only thing they have in common is scale focusing. No one buys any camera for scale focusing.
