WHERE THE FUCK ARE ALL THE THREADS AND COMMENTS GOING?
>> Anonymous
>>209879

janitors are keeping shit clean.
>> Anonymous
if modfags are going to delete threads without comment or warning then at least put a damned sticky up making the policy clear. this is ruining the continuity of the threads and making a bigger mess. make the policy clear and public rather than someone just shitting all over the place
>> Anonymous
>>209880

They aren't keeping it clean. They've deleted whole threads with no trolling. It's almost random, like someone has taken the medication away from some nut and left him in front of a janitor's PC.

read the faq/rules.. not the mods job to remind everyone of the policy.. its their job to enforce it.
>> Anonymous
>>209882

I'm willing to bet theyre deleting threads that are about gear, b/c I know for a fact I keep reporting them.

I also report shit thats obvious troll material and shit thats not taken by the OP unless it constructively contributes to this board.
>> Anonymous
>>209883

Doesn't say anything about gear threads being deleted in the FAQ.

>Only upload images that you, the photographer, have taken.

Reported.

BAWWWW gear thread BAWWWW
Also wtf is up with you reporting shit? No, fuck that, let's back up to HOW, then move forward to why, and thence to the question of if this is 4chan, or, in fact, a happy fluffy sunshine world of good feelings and rainbows.

GODDAMN IT ANON I WANT TO SEE YOU RAAAAAAAAAAGE

http://www.4chan.org/rules.php

>/p/ - Photography

> 1. Only upload images that you, the photographer, have taken.
> 2. Post only photos that show at least trace amounts of thoughtful composition. Do not upload random snapshots.
> 3. Even though EXIF data is made available when encoded, please post as much relevant technical information as possible, such as: camera, kit, lens, etc.
> 4. Include a short description with your photograph, such as when and where it was photographed and under what circumstances.
> 5. As with the art critique board, only constructive criticism will be tolerated.

also, you wouldnt be complaining unless you were one of the butthurt trolls whose threads were being deleted.

Assumptions make you look like a fool.

my reporting shit is making you rage.. i win at trolling.
>> Anonymous
>>209892

So that means people can't discuss and post examples of famous works to compare and work on photography ideas by those rules? Great job, knucklehead. Follow the letter of the law, not the spirit.
>> Anonymous
>>209895

i dont really report those.. those are good.. like i said:

>also report shit thats obvious troll material and shit thats not taken by the OP unless it constructively contributes to this board.

Where in there does it say anything about gear threads being against the rules?
>> Anonymous
>>209894
No, it just means you win at being the cancer.
Everywhere else in the world is civil, to one degree or another.
4chan is a harmless place to let go all the things that you can't say because of butthurt society telling you you can't call someone a fucktard when they are CLEARLY a fucktard.

tl;dr 4chan is my anti-drug
tl;dr RAAAAAAAAAGE
>> Anonymous
>>209899

It doesnt, but the rules clearly show that this is a photography/critique board. There are plenty of websites that discuss gear all day. 99.999% of the gear threads posted here could be answered with a quick Google search too.
>> Anonymous
If people don't like a thread like the gear ones then they can ignore it, but learning about gear is VITAL to photography. If you don't have the technical parts down then you can't do any of the rest. As this is an amateur board full of learners then 99% of the users will need to ask advice on the technical side - leading to gear threads. This is good and fine.
>> Anonymous
>>209901
And what was in Jeremo's thread that made you get that deleted?
>> Anonymous
>>209901

That is counter-productive, snobby and unfriendly. It does not help the board at all.
>> Anonymous
>>209902

Like i said.. i dont report the ones that help people out. I report the ones that are like "hey guys, which is better nikon or canon"

or "hey is this lens good?"

i wouldnt report something that said "hey, my pix keep coming out overexposed.. what could help me fix this" or "how do i get the lighting to look like this picture" etc.

but the "is this camera good" threads have got to go.
>> Anonymous
>>209906
What does them getting deleted accomplish? Instead of having the front page with shitty gear threads, it's full of "hai post this type of photo gaiz" threads, one of which is a flower macros thread and the other is sunsets.

It's nice to think ending gearfaggotry will fix the board, but it just won't. Such threads are useless but not destructive at worst, and at best keep the front page clean.
>> Anonymous
>>209903

I dunno i wasnt around for that.
>> Anonymous
>>209912
To elaborate/clarify a bit:

The gearfaggotry makes sure that when pictures are posted, they're good. 90% of stuff anyone shoots is not worth anyone else seeing. This board has a small userbase will not produce enough worthwhile work to keep it alive without frequent discussion of things that are not photographs.

Moreover, keeping middling photographs on the front page sets that as the standard of work we want to see here, driving away serious, talented people and attracting people who think the results of pointing their Powershot in the general direction of a sunset are worth anyone's time. I'd rather have a front page of nine worthless gear threads and one fuckawesome photo thread than ten boring pictures no one wants to see.

And I hate myself for sounding like a functionalist right now.
>> Anonymous
>>209923

You sound more like a half-assed idealist. In reality, we'll end up with 9 gear threads and 1 thread with powershot sunset shots and 0 with fuckawesome photos.
>> Anonymous
>>209938

also, if people are posting pictures - however bad they are - and we follow the rules and give constructive criticism, then we are infinitely more likely to help them get better as photographers than if they read 9 gear threads.

you lose.

I am of the opinion that only good posts be allowed
I do not see any potential problems relating to subjectivity

You forgot about DC's vignette/USM/oversaturate triple play.
>> Anonymous
Awesome. I post a trollan thread because serious threads get ignored and it spawns a discussion about gearfaggotry and the lack of discussion about /p/hotographs.

I was hoping for some rage but I guess this is fine too.

This "How is <generic entry-level DSRL/P&S>?"-shit seriously has to stop. Google has answers for nearly every question that has been asked before. For example the pros and cons of entry-level photography gear.

And where is the 4chan-mentality to bash what deserves to be bashed? If a picture is shit, why not telling the author that it is? It's always better to know of one's fault than to live in ignorance.
>> Anonymous
>>209999

as long as you tell him that its shit, but alos tell him WHY its shit, i agree.

constructive doesnt mean it has to be nice, but it has to help him get better, or else its gonna get reported.
>> Anonymous
>>210001
>constructive doesnt mean it has to be nice, but it has to help him get better, or else its gonna get reported.

Fucking signed.

I'm tired of all the "LOL SHITSUX FAGGOT" comments, or even the "LOL SHIT IS BORING FAGGOT" comments.
If it sucks, explain WHY it sucks. If it's boring, explain WHY it's boring, and then try to tell the OP what he could do to make it more interesting.

If the poster then gets all indignant and starts attacking critics, THEN you should bash the fuck out of him and tell him his girlfriend is fat and that he vignettes too much and needs to stop using so much USM.
>> Anonymous
>>210001
I'd prefer if someone told me it's shit without a reason to no comment at all. Constructive criticism is always better but destructive criticism at least tells me that it wasn't awesome enough to spare me from it.

On the other hand a "This is a nice shot" doesn't help me more than a "This is shit". Neither are constructive criticism but the former is unlikely to get banned. Which leads to the faggotry found on DA and others.
Mods should just let harsh comments and some trolls stay and get rid of the heap of stupidity that has been piling up.
