so i was wondering where the exif data comes from and what its for and is there a way to get rid of it

In Photoshop select save for web and it will strip the exif data.
It comes from the data your camera collects about the picture.

EXIF data is recorded on the camera. It displays basic to overkill information about the picture such as camera model, lense model, focus length, apreture (w/e) size etc etc.

any decent image program (irfview) can strip it for you.
