Should I go DSLR? Anonymous
I know everyone says, "it's worth it to go DSLR..." but I'm only 15. I have a powershot sd750 but it's frustrating me a lot. I've been looking at a family friend's shots with his DSLR and the difference is so apparent. I'm pretty serious about photograpy. I have the money, but I might need that for help with my car (which i already have). I'm leaning towards the Nikon D40 right now. The pic is one i took off of the sd750. Tell me what you think /p/!!!

this picture would be better if it was vertical and a bit closer, angled somewhat upwards toward the tree instead of eye-level. Basically, lay down on the ground and shoot upwards. Makes the horizon higher.
Good subject, boring composition and angle. You don't need a better camera until you know how to take better pictures first.

Like this kinda? I didn't get on the ground but that's a nice idea. I'm brand new and just found out it's enjoyable so cut me some slack...

that's the basic idea. But I'd also aim for more grass, less sky on the sides, and nothing distracting like that building in the background.
>> SAGE SAGE
OH WOW, THIS IS AN AMAZING SHOT.

YOU SHOULD GO PRO AND TAKE PICTURES OF NOTHING PROFESSIONALLY.

alright will do. Thanks for the help. The one with the sunset is mine too. It looks like this one...

YAY FOR YOU YA DOUCHE! Hope you feel better now about yourself and your photography. Anyways I am definitely not looking to go pro at all, i just started taking pictures like 3 months ago as a hobby. Settle down and go upstairs and get some of your mom's cookies.

You didn't shop that? Pretty dam good exposure then.
When shooting sunsets make SURE there's no lights on the ground. Also, the lamp sticking up spoils things. When shooting sunsets, if the ground is as lame as a parking lot, leave it out of the picture. Also noticing the branches in the upper left, another flaw.
I've been shooting as a hobby for a few years but I really don't get sunsets like that without a hell of a lot of shooping, and even then.
The sky is impressive. The ground is not. The lamp sucks hard.

That is the grainiest thing I ever saw. It would be an awesome picture otherwise. Problem is your ISO is fuckin 1600, which is what you'd use for shooting pictures of a star in the night sky or something, not a sunny daytime thing.

that's awesome. See i have no one to teach me these things like ISO, so I'm just going and learning as is. I've only been going at it for 3 months now so all this advice helps. What's the best ISO to shoot at in daytime then?

you can only learn so much from a textbook/manual.>>85948
As low as possible basically. Depends on how bright what your shooting is.

Yeah I LOVE my Canon SD450. Basically if you see a picture taken with an SD450 here, that's me.

Ken Rockwell has WONDERFUL tutorials!
I just started photography not too long ago and of course am getting a D40! Can't wait.

I read on /p/ that you should always take pictures in color because if you use the B/W or Sepia settings, you won't get as good color definitions or something like that. Just edit the photo later for B/W and Sepia effects. Well I know that has to do with B/W, but I'm not sure about Sepia.

OH and I just figured out on my SD450 that you can do long lens exposures if you set it on:
+Manual
++Menu
+++Long Shutter
++++Press 'Menu' while setting the exposure
Yeah I finally started reading the advanced manual on the internet. I lost the manual a looong time ago.
