Hey /p/,

So I am going to be getting a 50D in the next few days, and want a bit of advise on my lens choices. I am thinking of getting the body only, since I don't think the kit lens is all that great, but maybe I'm wrong.

I am thinking of getting a Canon 50mm 1.4, but maybe the Sigma 30mm 1.4 would be better on a crop. Thoughts?

Also I want to get a wide angle, the Canon 10-22 seems to be a solid lens, but what about the Sigma 10-20mm, or should I consider anything else?

Now for a good all around lens I am lost. There are the new super range lenses like the EFS 18-200mm, but I'd be okay with keeping out of the long end of the lenses for now. So what would you suggest for a good all around lens?

My budget is aimed at about $1,500 for a few lenses.

Halp /p/

disregard that about a crop body, i read 5D. tamron is still shit though.

It's specifically designed for a crop body. You obviously have no experience with it.

>>270428
The 1.8 and the Sigma will save OP $500 with barely any difference in image quality.

no, tamron has slower and noisier AF, but superior image quality for the price.

you have to be pretty lucky though to get a GOOD sigma 10-20, from what I heard quality is varying a lot.

what lenses fit on FF that don't fit on crop besides ultrawides that break mirrors?
Also, Tamron 17-50 is fuckwin. A little slow, but otherwise a real winner, especially for the price. I do tend to use it at 17mm 90% of the time, and would enjoy a sigma 10-20 if I can find a good one. Or, gods willing, nikkor 14-24. I'd fucking love to see that on my D40 lol, seriously tho, F100.

as far as i am aware it is the ff that is more likely to have problems with broken mirrors as they have the larger mirrors. you have is ass backwards.

What?! There's a fucking 50D out now? I haven't been keeping up with things for a while..Is it better than the 40D?

Canon are adament believers in lens-based stablisation, obviously not because then you have to buy it for each lens or anything

The reason is so that you see the stabilisation in the viewfinder, although it pisses me off everytime I look at the price difference between a non IS and an IS lens - it borders on extortion.

The Canon 50mm f/1.4 is very high quality, but 50mm can be a challenge on a crop.

The Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is definitely a more reasonable focal length, but is slower/louder on AF and apparently sometimes has backfocus issues out of the box. Although I hear most people just have to send them in to Sigma to have them calibrated or re-chipped. I want to say there is no charge for it.

~15MP instead of the 10.1MP on the 40.
Still has Live View like the 40D. Don't know why 270452 made it sound new.
No in-body IS AFAIK.
3" 900K pixel screen.
Up to ISO12800 instead of ISO3200.

There are a lot of legit reasons to go either way. What do you shoot mostly? What's your budget?

and we love challenges don't we?

AF for live view and live view in general on the 50D is much improved over the clumsy and terrible live view on the 40D.

Also, face recognition.

And only two custom modes on the mode dial instead of three. I think that's the only backwards step, though.

I haven't used the Sigma, but the Canon 10-22 is a sexy sexy beast. I'd steer away from super fast primes unless you intend to shoot a lot of low situations. Depending on what you want shoot, stick to high quality zooms and enjoy their flexibility. Noise levels just keep getting better so why not just shoot at a higher iso rather than buy less flexible lenses?
>> tizzou !!HuouSd+PYUs
Why not just get the 24-105L f4 and the sigma 10-22? you'll have the majoritry of your range covered plus a great lens for if you go full frame.
