I am in the same boat as the Anonymous above me. I am self taught, and I shoot because it makes me happy. I love the whole creative process of setting up a shoot, a concept, a location. Originally, my dream was to make it to national geographic and do wildlife & nature shoots, because that is where my heart was at the time.
Then a coworker got me into mode/fashion/editorial/fetish/commercial photography and now i'm just not sure where I want to go yet.
Most of my shoots right now are with a model, and though i am booked through the end of May already, it's all trade for print/cd. I've been told i'm good enough to charge, but i'm hesitant because i'm not sure if it will ruin the fun, carefree shoots i have with all the models right now.
I am part of a business group and do paid gigs for them as a self employed photographer (pictures for business cards, websites and such) but it isn't nearly as much fun as the on-location shoots I have going every single weekend.
So, in other words, i've absolutely no idea why. I just love it, it makes me happy and is a great stress reliever :-)
I guess the best possible scenario for me right now is to do photography for a living. Not necessarily for a huge magazine, or disneyland (ew) but to be able to make a contribution to a local community through it, be it covering sporting, community or news events.
