I currently have:

Canon 350D
Tamron 28-80 f/3.5-5.6
Tamron 75-300 f/4-5.6

Planning on buying one of these when my paycheck comes in

430EX
Tamon 17-50 f/2.8

Something that complicates things: 430EX II is coming out. I feel like buying a flash would allow me to take more pictures, but at the same time, I'd like to have a not so crappy walkaround lens (28mm minimum on a 1.6 crop is kind of a bummer), as well as a faster lens.

What would /p/ do?

17-50

and as far as ive read on DPR, the only advantage is a faster recycle time and now its silent.
which is kind of funny, cos i love that whine the flash makes when charging... its so ominous :D

I have ordered a Tamron 17-50, in your case i would sell the 28-80 and get the money for buying a 430ex

I like the recharging sound too. It makes me feel Gundam. The 430EX is fine if you've got your batteries charged. I'd only go for the 430EX II if the difference between them was like $10.

The 28-80 is like $50 new. Don't think I'd get much for it now. I'm gonna keep it for when I buy a film EOS camera.

and yes, I too love the sound that a recharging strobe makes.
