sup guys i've never really ventured into /p/ before.. i thought it was mainly guys argueing about nikon vs canon and asking what lens to buy.. anyway, to start off my contribution to /p/ i thought i'd dump my current portfolio..
i'be been interested in photography for about 4 years now, but have started doing it seriously for not even a year.. i've been published 3 times and i've had a few small jobs.. hopefully in the near future i'll be able to make a full living out of it..

crit is more than appreciated!

ok guys i think that'll do.. it's really hard choosing photos for your folio... you got personal faves, but you also got flicks that technically are real good.. it's hard to decide what is more important, however obviously you'd hange your folio to suit whatever client you are going to show it to.. this folio was for my college end of year exhibtion..

anyway, crit is more than appreciated so bring it on!
i use alot of strobes and stuff in my photos as you can probably tell, so lighting advice is good too..

Needs moar exif. Quit pulling from your flickr account.

I'm a wide-angle fag. I really love to shoot like... 14-40mm for events and landscape and even portraiture. Colors are really great in this shot. Is that a rainbow in the upper-left corner or some kinda weird spectral cro-mab shit? Might be my monitor, but this looks a little too dark, might wanna bump exposure in post-processing. You really captured the "big sky" feeling common with these kinds of wide-angle shots, but now try something with a more prominent subject in the foreground. Rows of flowers are really a nice touch too, shows you were thinking about repetition and lines with your composition, but it's a shame they're not leading us to anything (like the tree). That would've been perfect. Great shot though.

>>223205
Great angle, I love to see it when somebody's actually getting on the ground or trying something different. I know you're thinking, "OMG, composition," but this would really be much better if you cropped out the left 2/3's of the photo. There is NOTHING interesting going on over there. Don't give us 2/3's of nothing and then say, "Lol, rule of thirds!" You're doing it wrong. However, lighting's great on your subject. Try to get a little closer though.

>>223207
While I don't hate this as much as the rest of /p/ will, I feel that that this scene had so much more potential. Are you in a car? Get out of it and take this horizontal, straight on against the graffiti'd wall, umbrella in lower-right thirds (just as an example). Point is, the diagonal slash of nothing doesn't do anything for me. However, the lights are great and this is the perfect exposure for this shot. If you got on the ground and shot up at the umbrella and wall and got some of that "floating lights" look, it'd be great. I love how your exposure makes it seem as if the wall just ends into nothingness.

(con't)
>>223209
Tilted horizon works. Hell, even the lens flare works for me in this one. I know these are some pretty cliche characteristics of shitty photos, but this is how they're done right. However, when you use a wide-angle, you need to think about how the distortion is going to affect your PoV. If your subject is further away from the lens and something boring closer, the distance is going to be greatly exaggerated. I know it's tough with skating shots, but you need to get physically closer to your subject with this focal length. It's a little dangerous, but get used to it. It'll be worth it.

>>223210
No offense meant, but you kinda gave your dad a bug-eyed look there. Have him looking at something with a distance equal to that of the camera lens in order to fix that. Otherwise, solid lighting, choice of clothing, etc.

>>223211
Not bad, but again: Get closer to your subject. I don't like having giant, boring, out of focus chunks taking up half of the photo. It's good that you're thinking about composition, but you need to find a way of getting rid of the boring and filling the frame with the interesting.

>>223212
The only reasons why I might like this is because 1: It's a one-time thing. You have to get it right the first time or else you're screwed and 2: I hate overpriced ipods and macfags. Here's a thought for the next time you play with fire. Cover the subject in flammable liquid instead of just pouring it sloppily all over the place. Might be a little better. Other than that, solid composition and exposure.

Like I said, you need to get closer to your subjects when you shoot wide-angle and fill the frame with more interesting stuff instead of letting something boring hang out just to get a neat composition. However, some of this is great. Solid work.
>> Srs Critique Fag !2y1il5Qy0g
Oh, there's more. Okay.

>>223452
His back's turned to us = boring. Try to get us more shots with people's faces. Also, get closer (again).

>>223456
Alright, try to post yourself a little closer to where he's landing so we can get more than just a straight on shot (just my opinion for a better photo). Also, needs a little more lighting/faster shutter speed to catch more details in his face. Think about where you're going to be taking the photo and set up your flash there instead of behind him where there's going to be more shadows and less detail.

>>223458
Once again, back usually = boring. Everybody likes to see faces in photos. Not always, but it tends to be true (and is in this case). Again, get closer and fill the frame with the action. I've said all I need to about this photo.

>>223463
Okay, as with your very first shot, when you include a lot of something in a wide-angle shot, you're going to make it stand out and seem important in your image. While this gives you a kind of neat composition here, I still end up thinking, "Wow, a ramp... OH! Look, somebody's skating, lol." I know you think this really makes a cool composition, but it doesn't seem worth it to me without a more interesting subject. Magazines might like something like this though cause then they get to fill all that boring space with text, but as a stand-alone photo, I'm going to have to say no to all the ramp.

wow man thanks for all the crit.. fucking hell haha!
seriously man thats the most crit i've ever had before n' i've posted these shots on quite a few forums.. even my tutor doesn't crit as much as you had... thanks alot dude..
i do agree with alot of what your saying, however i somewhat disagree about the 'getting closer' crit.. getting closer would mean loosing things that i have purposely included in the photo, allbeit the ramp or the landing, or even the scenery to show the general atmosphere, but i feel this is a must in some of the photos, and it definatly does help composition wise, and simple getting closer would mean i would loose alot of the potential composition values that could be used, even if that does mean having dead space..

eitherway your crit is banging, thanks alot man.. i'll wack up a few more shots that aren't of skating, and hopefully you'll be able to crit these aswell..
