even tho my camera isn't weather sealed or anything, i'll still gladly go out into the pissing rain with it. Who else doesn't baby their equipment?

I've had mine out in a drizzle/light sprinkle. No way I'd take it out in pouring though. A film camera, maybe, depending on the camera and circumstances.

I just found out that the shutter release button on a Mamiya M645 Super snaps in and out without breaking if it's dropped/smashed.

The thing just snaps back in and keeps on going. Amazing camera.

did you wind up getting the F6?

With my nonweathersealed digital camera, I'll take it into the rain, but cover it up whenever I'm not actually composing/focusing/exposing. Otherwise I don't baby it one bit.

If I had a weathersealed body or a nail-driving old film camera then there's nothing I wouldn't do with/to the thing.

its in the works, you know how fricken slow insurance companies are.... I should give them a call...

I never baby my cameras and have never had any problems until recently. A few weeks ago a D2x body fell out of my bag, from waist height, and landed on the pavement. I've dropped that camera farther and harder than that many times, but this time it must have reached it's limit because it never turned on again. Since the repair center wanted $790 plus parts to fix it, I just scrapped it and will replace it with a D700 once they're readily available. I don't plan on babying that either.

SCRAPPED IT!?! Send it to me! Dont throw away electronics that still have working parts.
>> Anonymous
>>228356
Yeah, scrapped it. As in sold it for scrap parts. Got $600 for it.

>>228358
Oh phew... I thought you threw it away or something. Just making sure.

Ive covered my in saltwater and not washed it, take it out in the rain quite often with no protection but not dropped it much.

Did drop my 11-18 about 1.5m but managed to roll it down my leg, its working fine.

Im looking forward to getting the steel framed 9 <3

i wanted to make a thread like this one :
i was in iceland last week, taking pictures under the rain/in the volcanic mud/under waterfalls, i even got shitted on by over 9000 gulls
my 350D got so soaked i thought it would be its last trip,
fucking camera is unbreakable, the only problem i've had is the battery dying on me real quick when it was cold...
now i don't have any excuse for a 40D...

What is a good thing to cover your camera with when shooting in downpour and your camera isn't weathersealed? There are lots of things on amazon but are they wastes of money? Should I just get a plastic bag or something?
>> Anonymous !SDPEsPMnww
I dropped my 5D+24-105mm off a desk about 1m high. Still works just fine.

yeh i got mine sprayed with a wave when i was on rocks getting a sunrise photo in the rain... just wiped it off and its fine..

but honestly i now take a shower cap with me... yes! a shower cap.. its small, pocket sized, and it can stretch over your camera.. i usualy take the ones you get in hotels when im on holidays,.. and they work pretty well... but also an umbrella or a plastic bag works fine..

I've definitely left my rebel on a tripod in the pouring rain, attempting to get lightning pics before...
I stopped that because I couldn't stand all the freaking water drops in the pic.

The sentiment of "babying" something applies exclusively to living things, eg., teaching someone a lesson or "what doesn't kill me, makes me stronger" experiences.

A camera is a piece of equipment. Every time you use a piece of equipment, it gets a little bit weaker, and a little bit closer to breaking forever.

Enjoy losing your camera 10x faster than sane people who know not to take delicate electronics out in the fucking rain.

>>228655
'Kay. We'll enjoy the pictures we get, because we buy our equipment to use it.
>> Anonymous
>>228659

Yeah, and so do I. I'm just intelligent enough to put an umbrella over my stuff before I take it out in the rain.
