Game textures. Anonymous
Hey guys. I'm hoping i can ask this here, didn't see anything in rules saying i cant... anywho:
I am in a new game modding team, and have just started our first project, and we need some textures. Thing is, none of us have a decent cam, so i thought this would be a good opportunity to spend the money i have saved. Unfortuanatly, i know nothing at all about photography, so was hoping /p/ could give me some advice on taking pics of possible textures, and even advice on which type of cam to look for - maybe even suggestions?
Thanks for your help guys.

You probably don't need a DSLR for this.

If you have good photo software (Photoshop, etc.) that can read raw files, get a Panasonic FZ-50 or FZ-8.

If not, a Canon S3IS, that's basically the same price as the FZ-8 but only shoots JPEG files should work just as well.

My only other advice would be to buy a small tripod to make sure you shoot your textures absolutely level.

Oh, I forgot to explain what a DSLR is.

An SLR is a bulky, noisy, expensive camera that is easy to use and versatile for professional/artistic photography. Seperate lenses have to be purchased for them.

A DSLR is just a digital one.
