Just got a sony dslr A-200. I was looking for an entry level cheap slr, and I was going to buy the xt for 600, but then I saw the sony on sale for 480. So I decided to go with that. especially since it was the one I was looking at when I first had the idea.
I also wanted to go cheap (but not d40 cheap) to see if I like it or not, and then if I get any good, or really enjoy it, I'll save up for a 1-2k canon and a good lens.

but, /p/ I need your advice should I bother getting a high speed CF card? like the sandisk ultra III? is it worth the extra money? and is there a cheaper/better place than ebay that I can get CF cards (needs to be with paypal)

pic was just random snapshot while playing with my new camera.

inb4 I should have gotten a pentax/canon/nikon/leica

Get the Sandisk Ultra III, but not any higher in their range. Fast and reliable cards.

Watch out for fake cards being sold on eBay. Especially from China. Lots of scams going on with them. Remember that if the price looks too good to be true, chances are it isn't.

op here, is there any site that takes paypal that has reliable, inexpensive cards?

OP

Minolta/Sony makes some amazing glass, i think you'll find when you want to upgrade you'll be fine (unless you need that 1200/5.6 that canon has that costs $80kUSD)

And even the A100 has blazing write speeds; get the Ultra III.

It doesn't matter how fast the write speed is, the burst speed is only 2.5fps in RAW. A high speed card wouldn't matter at all.

yes it does

ITT /p/ gives conflicting information, once again.

the cameras processor is limited.therefore can only process ie. 2.5fps for a certain length of time.. the shutter speed is separate from this restriction.only when the processor reaches its capacity ,the camera stops recording images.

Then again, you'd have to be pretty fucking stupid to come to /p/ for gear advice.

A (cheap) D40 will always be better then your shitty Sony.

Not that it would matter on your non resized snapshots. GTFO.

If you really want high speed, ditch raw. A Lexar Pro 133x can shoot 2.5-3fps forever on an A100.

Yes, until you fill the card with 200 photos.

On my cheapo unbranded CF I can get about 10-11.

RAW on the Lexar gets 8 in a single burst.

A200 wouldnt be that different.
