Since you were using flash, try dragging the shutter.

Bump the ISO up at least a little bit if you can. This pic is at ISO50, so I'm not optimistic on how it'll look at 200 or 400 and also slow down to like 1/30th of a second.

The flash will cause your sister to still be well lit, but increasing the ISO and exposure time will allow the background to come in more.

I'm not a /p/hotographer but I enjoy browsing /p/.

I don't understand why so many people post such high res pics. Most of the time they are not only too big to fit on a monitor (so you can't enjoy them all in one go) and they look much nicer/smoother when resized to a normal size.

OP's pic at 3000x2000 is a great example.

So /p/, why the super high res sometimes?

the high res so it'll be ok to edit later.

smaller Res sometimes fucks up when edited.

and so you have the freedom of resizing to whatever you want . not keeping it at a 480 if you will later want a 1600 wallpaper out of it.
that's my logic.

and monitors will have higher res later... in this example if the sister would want to see this pic at the age of 10, the technology would be .. well.. you get the point. res standard would be higher.

That's why you have keep the original and make a smaller version for viewing now.

Actually,>>124405is wrong. /p/ is not here to edit your photos for you. Smaller images, with the longest edge approximately 800 or 1000 pixels should be the norm. If someone is uploading very high resolution images in the original post, then he needs to lurk more.

The only person who probably values a higher resolution is the photographer himself, unless someone asks for a higher res version to be posted.

As for the point of monitors with higher resolutions in the future, I will not argue this fact. However, the more important issue is what monitors the people of /p/ possess at this particular moment.

ooh.. he meant on just /p/?

i thought he meant the Over all super high res in pictures (over all over all)

he also says
>Most of the time they are not only too big to fit on a monitor (so you can't enjoy them all in one go)

Yeah, which is why it's a good idea to have three copies of every photograph:

1. The original raw file.
2. A .psd (or the format of whatever editing suite one uses; I'm going to assume GIMP doesn't use .psds as its default file format.) with all the post-conversion corrections. Full-res.
3. A resized version of the .psd file for people to look at, a sort of "digital print," that can fit onto a monitor. Most people use .jpgs; personally, I prefer .pngs, but I'm in the minority and it's due more to my anal hatred of lossy compression than any real reason. (I use .jpgs for /p/ everybody, don't worry)

Cheaper than film.
