Sup /p/

I'm looking for a good DSLR camera and I came across the Canon EOS 400D.

Is this a good camera? Is the stock lens good?

Go to a store and feel around all the cameras in its price range. Get the one that feels best, unless it's a D40 or D60, in which case get a used D50. They messed it up for serious photography in the "upgrade."

If I had to suggest an entry-level DSLR based on the spec sheet, I'd suggest the Pentax *ist D or *ist DS. They've got better viewfinders than any APS-C DSLR except the Pentax x0D series, and they're the only entry-level DSLRs to have two control dials. They're discontinued, but buying used is fine.

But really, buy on ergonomics. The reason I'm suggesting the *ist is because its spec sheet indicates it probably owns all the other in ergonomics- I've never held one.

Go to store, ask to feel all cameras mentioned, pick which is the most comfortable. They all have similar features and strenghts/downfalls, for your level (ie noob) all that matters is the comfort.

Yeah, after hearing/reading people complain about grips, feeling etc. in some reviews, I can somewhat grasp that it's a big deal...
That Pentax *ist DS has caught my attention, its just the image size being 6.1 MP that puts me off.

Either way, I'll note the cameras you guys have said here, go to a store and try some out etc.
I'm sure they'll have something I'd like.
Thanks.

6mp is enough, unless you dont know composition and have to crop 50% every time or need to print to the sides of buildings you'll have more than enough.

I chuckled at the name.
Also, thanks.

Yes, we had it and decided that no consumer needs more than 6mp. You're trying to troll.

I thought the megapixel myth and optical xN zoom and digital xNNN zoom and ZOMG 1600 ISO were debunked already. Why aren't camera manufacturers making 6mp point and shoots with f/1.8 lenses close to the 28-135 on a 35mm frame which can pump out clean images at ISO 800? In fact, I want a full frame dSLR at 6mp to have clean images at ISO 3200 rather than 26mp full frame that's noisy as fuck on ISO 1600.
