hay /p/ given the freedom to choose between an aspect ratio of 1:1 or 3:2 in your SLR, ignoring whether this is 35mm, medium, large format, etc. What would you pick? (cant chose between both)
>> Anonymous
1:1

You can always crop to 3:2 later

OP here

okay then, consider we're talking 35mm film. would you lose the 3:2 aspect for 1:1, considering this change would increase the amount of exposures you get from a 36exp roll all the way to around 58exps per roll?

Pretty much
36exps, 3:2
vs
58exps, 1:1

Assuming 35mm film, definitely not. If I wanted to shoot with a smaller-than-35mm surface area, I'd use my half-frame.

If it was a theoretical imaging surface that could have either 1:1 or 3:2 aspect ratio with the same resolution (I.e., X square millimeters of surface for either one), I'd go with the 3:2. I prefer that framing to a square one, in general.

Okay, thanks for the replies, I'll keep it in mind.

are you asking us this so that you can choose between what to use? because if so, you need to learn to think for yourself and use what you like. if not, its a rather boring subject to discuss.
