Leica M8 Anonymous
Yay or nay?

I already have a Noctilux that I inherited from my Dad. Worth the enormous wads of cash for the camera?
>> Anonymous
M8 is certainly overpriced for what it can do, but since you already have a Noctilux, it's not like there's any choice if you want a digital camera.

If you already have a Noctilux, yes, get it. Then post pictures here so we can all fap to your bokeh.

Overpriced since it's a flawed design that they know people will overpay for anyway

Raises an interesting point. Did you get a camera body along with that Noctilux? If so, just use that.

How the hell do you pronounce leica?

In my head, it's always been "LIE kuh", but I don't actually know for sure.

LIE Kah

Emp-Tee Wa-Let

M8 waste of money IMO, unless you are really rich. a handful of people in PJ might have a need for it.

leica is prounounced lei-kah.

I think the M8 is overpriced. That said, I have an M3 and it's bar none the best camera I've ever owned or used, so if I had the money I would certainly buy an M8 to check it out.

Is it only me who thinks that there are more people who buy Leicas to put them on a stand instead of shooting with them? OK.. noctilux is a great lens, but if you don't shoot in complete dark, why waste $5000 on 35mm camera that can't even AF?

If you had used one, you might understand. Leicas have never been about technological features, that's always been left for the Japanese camera companies. Leicas are about ergonomics and build quality. There are some people that care about those things and some that don't.

Personally, I'd rather have a simple camera over a complex one and I think Leica M-series ergonomics are the best that have ever been. Plus the fact that I prefer rangefinder focusing/viewfinder over an SLR finder, particularly with as bad as most DSLR finders are.

Even old time camera fans aren't too pleased with their rather sluggish development or adoption of new features. They pander to collectors more than photographers nowadays.

There have been suggestions that Leica should make a $35,000 limited edition camera that doesn't actually have anything inside the camera body. The jackasses who collect 'em and never actually take pictures would snap 'em up, and they could use that to subsidize a dirt cheap consumer model with the standard Leica quality.

seriously, thats great and all, but im not loaded up with all that cash to grab up an m8, and then get a noctilux to total around 10k.

i would prefer to start payments on a house or buy a car :<
