Hey /p/, how do I justify the purchase of the Bigma? I like birding, and I have realised that my 300mm does not give me enough reach. Used it with a teleconverter and it made my images softer, and due to light constraints I can't step down.

So, how do I justify it? Or should I just give up birding?

What's your problem, Bigma's price is more than adequate given its reach and quality. If you really like birding and can buy it without selling your kidney, why not? It's not like you're buying some old plastic lens hood for $3000 just for kicks. (Btw I'm not joking about the hood, that price is real)

>50/1.1 Plastic Lens Shade Mint- with original case $3000. Made of plastic to save weight on the very large lens shade, this is probably the most sought after Nikon Rangefinder lens shade as it is necessary to make the 50/1.1 lens complete.

HOLY CRAP. $3000 FOR A CHEAPLY MADE PLASTIC LENS HOOD.

I'm guessing those prices are USD? That's incredible.

Holy crap. I have seen EVERYTHING now. With that 3000 bucks I can probably make a mould of it and sell it for 1500 bucks each.

That's not a bad idea although it does border on counterfeiting. I'm guessing it can't be that hard to make or buy a new hood that fits the lens. They must be paying that money for the collector's and rarity value rather than for entirely practical purposes.

Hahaha, you're not the only one with that idea. They sell the replicas for $750 rather than $1500, though - fucking cheap!

Of course they're paying for rarity. It's hard to imagine someone actually using a hood this cumbersome, fragile and insanely expensive for practical purposes.

$3000 NIKON PLASTIC HOOD

$485 AUDIOPHILE WOODEN KNOBS (/g/'s favorite)

Now I've really seen it all. Magic (or bizarrely overpriced) wooden knobs for your audio set up? Good grief.
