What's a good way to get water to stick in neat drops? My guess it involves some hydrophobic coating spray or something... I know with cobwebs you can get nice effects by using a water sprayer, but does anyone know any tricks for other objects?

I seem to remember someone suggesting "glucose spray" or something like that... that was for food photography so I wouldn't use it on a person hahah

A syringe with water works great as well, apparently.

pro tip: they don't use water

This works rather well but is unpredictable.

it starts off as small droplets like that but over time, they clump together. I guess you just have to time it right.

like i said, condensation is your friend.

of course people in advertising don't like to do things anything remotely relating to reality and would rather go a round-a-about fashion to give themselves a sense of self-accomplishment.

btw, here's my dinner. I just threw another one in the freezer to see if it works too. I hope it retains the temperature enough to condense the air around it.

Use a mix of glycerin and water.

Also, condensation takes time, and requires a cooling method.

meh, the texture of the apple isn't the type that allows the water droplets to bulge.

Dear OP

1 - get a saucepan
2 - fill with water, about an inch deep
3 - put on a hotspot\stove\whatever. bring close to boiling
4 - dissolve a few tablespoons of sugar in the water
5 - turn off heat, wait for liquid to cool
6 - place in container, put in fridge\freezer
7 - wait about 10 mins
8 - using your fingers, 'flick' the liquid on the object
9 - ??????
10 - profit

The liquid should be slightly thicker than normal water, but still almost transparent. slightly sticky to the touch aswell.

Seriously.

My background is in commercial photography. I've worked a bunch of product shoots and you don't really use natural condensation because it's too easy to screw up, to hard to control, and it doesn't stand up to being under photographic lights for long periods of time.

For most applications, watered-down glycerin in a spray bottle will give you the results you need. The addition of the glycerin to the water means the liquid stays more where you put it and resists evaporation. In places where you really need a drop to stay put, use corn syrup.

>>254332
Waaaaaaaaay too complicated and totally unnecessary. Again: corn syrup if you really need a big drop or placement is tricky.

Also, in some applications (beverage ads in particular), where the desired effect is particularly high, round droplets, the outside of the bottle (or whatever) is often polished with car wax prior to getting sprayed. Individual drops are also routinely placed for effect with an eye-dropper or small pipette.
