D:I've broken my D40. I dropped it off a shelf about 30cm above the (concrete) floor and now the mirror is flipped up and doesn't come back down. FFSTechnical geniuses of /p/, is it even remotely possible to take this to a photo store and having it fixed somehow? Can't find my warranty D:
Certainly possible. Mirrors die after a while anyway, so replacing one's a reasonably common repair.
You should still be able to get professional quality shots with the mirror locked up.Viewfinders are for noobs and sissies.
>>260142Yay! Was talking to a friend about it earlier and he was all "seems very unlikely", so this gives me some hope. I'll drop by a store and hear the details tomorrow. Thanks :D
Use your finger to straight it up again
i bet the focus screen is damaged
throw away, buy new... seriously.
>>260618Certainly don't throw away. I've been trying to buy a broken D50 for parts on eBay and they're going for over $100 each. D40s will probably go for similar amounts. It'll get you a little bit of the way towards a shiny new D80, if nothing else.
MEH, OP here.Called the only Nikon service center in this country, they say I'm probably better off buying all new gear. wtf...
>>261254the d40 is shityou should buy a new camunless you have lots of lenses switch to canon or pentaxanything is better than nikon
>>261257troll troll is troll
>>260138Permanent mirror lock up? In all seriousness tho, LOL THIS IS WHY YOU KEEP THE STRAP AROUND YOUR NECK AT ALL TIMES.Also...>>261257Careful there mate, you might just give yourself away.
>>260138As a D40fag.Sell it for parts and use what spare money you have to buy a canon.
