im interested in doing long-exposure(i think) light art. i've searched google but i don't think im looking in the right places. can anybody point me in the right direction?

light painting is easy as hell.

all you need is a flashlight or something similar and a dark area or room.
however to make some interesting light art you'd have to have some kind of artistic creativity IMO.

search light painting, light graffiti, and camera tossing.

light painting is where you light up a object/person/scene with a light source.

light graffiti/drawing is where you project a light source directly into the lens, as to draw shapes, and write words.

camera tossing is where you take a light source (usually static) and move your camera around, so that it makes interesting shapes.
