Ugh. I wanted to check how much dust was on my (one month old) XTi, set it f/36 and took a shot of a brightly lit piece of plain white paper.

I'm starting to really wish I didn't, though.

Is this much dust the norm, or should I be looking into getting it cleaned? You can't really see any of it at the larger apertures.

Your N80 can't be that bad unless you left film in it and then tested on that first shot...

...

You change the imaging surface on your N80 every 36 frames. He's using a digital SLR.

And yeah, don't worry about the dust. Dust happens. Just don't shoot at higher than f/16 and you're fine.

yeah, but on my mirror and such ?

Your mirror doesn't generate static electricity that sucks up dust.

good point. Shows how much I know about digital, doesn't it?

Eeesh, I must be a hypochondriac or something, I can't even stand a speck of dust. In fact at the moment, there's two tiny hairs (I think) somewhere, but I can't seem to get them off.

You know you don't have to "look into getting it cleaned", you can easily do it yourself. Or at least get most of it off yourself.

I did try with an air blower thing (squeeze it and air comes out) but I think that made it worse rather than better.

Here's the results of a bit more air blowing, and actually setting the white balance properly on the paper. f/36 again.

Guys, after reading that topic a couple weeks back on dust I decided to give Sensor Swab a try and I have to say that I'm completely satisfied. It worked like a charm and I'm quite happy.

Find your camera here and see what you need:

I would suggest buying your stuff from Pictureline since they have the lowest prices.

Oh and you're welcome.

Thanks, I'll look into it.
This blower thing really isn't helping matters, I'm quitting with it while I'm ahead. This is at f/5.6 (ignore file name >_> typo) and you can see the dust, f/36 is much much worse (next post)
