DSLR BUYING TIME BITCHES Anonymous
i told my girlfriend i really wanted a DSLR (i used to words digital camera) and she asked me to show her which one i want.
showed her a picture of a 40d, and said she'd buy it for me. i am jobless and she makes close to 80 thousand a year.

basically she is willing to drop ~1200 bucks on me for a DSLR. i just pulled the 40d out of my ass to show her a picture.. is that what i should really get though for the best bang4buck? all she knows is that shes buying me a big xbox hueg camera

TLDR: guy is unemployed. guy wants DSLR. guy has sugar momma. guy is lucky. my name is not guy

Trick her into buying you a 5D or a D700.

D700. If that's too much D90.

Just don't forget about a good lens to go with it... Something like the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM or the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Both are capable of great results with the 40D...

>you fucking liar

nope

>Trick her into buying you a 5D or a D700.

i don't want to swindle around too much. i was just curious if /p/ thinks there is a better camera for the same price or barely more. i personally can't find a 5d or d700 anywhere in good condition for less than 1600 bucks, and i would like to be able to fit AT LEAST one lens, maybe two into my 1200ish budget

also: the only lens i have is the piece of shit35-80mm zoom EF kit lens from my 35mm rebel G so i can basically go to any brand without lens remorse

Then there's an option of buying the 30D + 17-40 f4L
The 30D isn't really that less of a camera. And I guess if you're switching to digital - that focal length will probably appeal best. Plus the whole thing is approximately in you're budget.

i know it sounds stupid but a large part of the appeal pf the 40d to me is its xbox huegness and weight. evidently i have "larger-than-average" hands

30D + Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 + Canon 50mm f/1.8

Have you actually held one and the other? They're almost identical. If it's still not big enough for you - get a battery grip :)

Get a 50D when it comes out! I believe the kit lens for it is supposed to be Canons new 18-200mm IS... I mean, thats fucking perfect for a starter lens.

Your mom doesn't constitute a girlfriend even if you are friends with her.

That's not a lens... That's a joke. And no USM... It would probably appeal to the amateur, who's buying an entry level DSLR. In all other cases, you'd soon want to switch it to something better.

lol... good one!

Same guy you responded too. Yeah, I've been reading up on it and not only is the lens subpar but Canon is selling that particular kit for $700 on top of the Body. Ouch.

Pentax K10D (or K20D if you want to spend a bit more) and the 50mm f/1.4 would be under your budget if you were so inclined.

go for the 50D, coming out in november.
the 40D was like an inbetween camera, the 50D is going to be bitchin'.
like the D300, only cheaper and with a really good kit lens.
