Sooooooooooo I'm pretty pissed off. I wanted to use my old camera, but I need to use an EPX13 battery...which is discontinued.

Was just wondering if that's the only battery I can use for the camera, or if there's some other one that I could use...which isn't discontinued....

Blah.

You can buy black market ones or you can buy compatible ones. Look up on google for your camera + battery in the search and you'll find a forum or FAQ somewhere for each model.

I can't use a compatible one.
Know of any places that still sell these batteries?

get a weincell, the discharge rate is almost exactly the same as the mercury cell. You can get them at most camera shops.

Just go to your local camera shop. They have modern equivalents for all the discontinued mercury batteries.

Okay your options are like this:

1) Find a real mercury battery. Apparently they're sold online but I've never seen any.
2) Buy an alkaline battery in the correct size. These are pretty accurate at first (a bit too high voltage) but their voltage decreases sharply over use, so they end up inaccurate fast.
3) Buy a silver oxide battery in the correct size. These give a constant voltage, but a bit too high.
3a) Buy an adapter for lowering the silver oxide battery's voltage to the correct level. I think these are sold by a company called CRIS. Expensive, but a good long term idea.
4) Buy zinc-air Wein cells in the correct size. Good if they didn't run out so fast.

Ok, I know I can buy a substitute battery for the light meter, but I don't think the pictures will come out as good as they would when using a mercury battery. So I am told.

OP again, I mean.. is that true?

you dont even need a light meter, so no it doesnt affect much of anything
you just need a 1.35v source of power for it, that could be either a zinc-air battery or a silver-oxide cell with a diode to step it down to 1.35v. if you can get an actual mercury battery that'd be optimal

Alright, I guess I'll try one of those out.
I have an old Konica, I don't know if that would make a difference really with the light meter or anything.
But yeah, I'll definitely try one of those out.

Some cameras have circuits to compensate for incorrect voltage, but otherwise you'll get readings off by a stop or so.

I'm guessing you have a Konica Autoreflex of some variety. You can still get batteries for them. They take PX-625 batteries in addition to the EPX13's. You can get them at B&H. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/96457-REG/Wein_W9901201_MRB625_Cell_1_35v_Zinc_Air.html
