1. He was using an old Nikon. A film body for a photojournalist in this day and age? Hope you like adding an hour's worth of development, printing, and scanning time to your big breaking news story's pictures. 2. Only one camera? Eric Foreman had a backup P&S digital for when Spiderman smashed his main SLR in the third movie. Eric Foreman was a better photographer. 3. "Hey, there's really important action happening. Where the hell's my photographer?" Whenever there was anything that Peter really ought to have been shooting, he was too busy being Spider-Man. This was explicitly touched on in the third movie.
So basically, he'd have no career if not for the fact that he can stage photographs of himself. Which, personally, I think is *easily* as unethical as what Eric Foreman did.
