Okay. The composition is equilibrated. The contrast of the tree against the black background is pretty bad though. Maybe the coloured original would be better? You know, I can sort of imagine a tree with autumn-ish leaves or at least green against a darker background... would spice things up a bit.

I like the balance in this photo, though I don't know if I like the contrast between the tree and the background. I think an IR filter would work great in bringing out the leaves in that tree. Since you didn't do that, maybe some dodging in PS would do the trick?
>> Ichi
the tree get's a bit lost in the background, which is maybe too dominant and dark. lighten it a bit up.

but anyway I like it.
>> elf_man
Sorry, not to nitpick, but "equilibrated" isn't even close to being a real word. It's like a weird composite of equilibrium, calibrate, equilize... yeah, so not a word.
Same comments as the others, nice shot, nice concept. Reminds me of Six Feet Under.

well, my main language isn't english, so I doubted myself for a second, but...

Really? Guess it just has an awkward sound to me. My bad, sorry.

Don't listen to them, they're yet to do their homework on "low key". There's nothing to improve in this photo. The tree is perfectly accented against the background. Very subtle, yet just enough. It's more like a painting, and to do this in photography is quite an achievement.

If I were to nitpick, it would be about that bright wedge on the right border. Just burn it into oblivion, and you'll be set.

it's okay, the brotherhood of /p/ forgives :P

not to be nitpicky... but the leaves would need to be a little less shiny to regard this as "low key" . but yeah, it's another idea.

I really, really like this photo. My only nitpick is the same as 55898, though I wouldn't suggest colorizing it. I love the black and white. One possible way to improve the contrast is just to wait until the tree is lit better. Granted, keep the shadow, as it makes the picture, but see if there's another time of the day or just another day when the tree is lit up better. I would go back to this very spot and reshoot until I had a portfolio quality image.

As it is, though, it's still very enjoyable.

okay so I did a PS hackjob in a minute...

upped the contrast on the floor, and lightened up the tree's background to make the tree a wee more subtle

We have a winrar.

I still suggest you go back and shoot it again, if that's possible. You've found a lovely composition, and if you can develop it further, then you should.

This is fail. The tree lost it's mysteriousness, there's now junk visible in the background, and the thing mentioned in>>55915is still there. Definitely change for the worse.

I agree, the fallen leaves in this photo are more pronounced than the original and also the focused shadow makes for an interesting effect. I like it alot.

no, this is PHOTOGRAPHY!

lol subjectiveness

Make the area above the benches totally black. Thats it.
It's all down to your creativity though. These guys will try and add what they think is thier style to you're image but there is nothing wrong with the picture. It's clear and its arty, the rest is upto you really.

OP here!
>>55900
I can agree with that comment.. the tree could've used slightly more light.

>>55930
Thanks :]

I was actually pondering on getting rid of that white line on the right. Think I should then?

Thanks for the advice, everyone.. I never thought I'd say this, but /p/ was actually useful today ;]
