Woot, I just won a photography contest (Summer theme, digital camera required), It was put on locally by a photography store, and I don't lose any rights to my pictures or anything (They get to publish it in the newspaper, thats it)

Anyway it net me a D40x (Or since I don't want it, i'll trade it for store credit) I'll probably get an SB-800 and an 85mm f1.8. Undecided on that yet.

Picture very much so related

Bathtub Racers
It was an event earlier in the day, made a good foreground though.

hey great job :)

What other lenses do you have? i definitely recommend the Sb-800, is there enough money for 2 Sb-800? that would be well wicked

I already have a SB-600, And my D200 can play commander to either anyway, The Sb-800 is more to guaruntee that both my camera's (D50 aswell) have external flash's on them for weddings/ when i pair up with a friend, and for some of the cool features the SB-800 has that the 600 doesn't

Lenses I'm pretty set, I don't have a good macro but thats not really a focus for me anyway.

Sigma, 10-20, 24 f1.8, 30 f1.4, 90mm macro (old one)
Nikon 50 f1.4, 80-200 af-s

So i'm kind of set for lenses, was thinking the 85mm f1.8 would cover the off chance i need a longer focal length low light lens.

I'm open to recommendations though,

get a micro. they're pretty much the sharpest lenses in the entire nikon catalog, except for some of the exotic super teles.

they're also much more useful than you'd think.

Nice boats

Ya I thought pretty hard about that, but the 105mm f2.8 VR micro is 979 CAD, And I only get about 800-900 (depending on if it comes with a lens) for the D40x

I wouldn't mind paying extra for it, BUT I also want that SB-800...

why would you race bathtubs, you don't race bathtubs, you take baths in those. why not race cars

Good job!

Get a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 and a SB-800 if there's enough left.

i've got the 85mm f/1.8D, its an amazing lens, super sharp, i recommend you get it
>> Vincent
>>82245
Meh F2.8 isn't fast enough for that much overlap in focal length, And I have the Sigma 10-20mm for the extreme wide angle. And I'm not a big fan of zooms.

I have a Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 that I'm selling because I never use it.

So i'm still leaning towards the SB-800 + 85mm f1.8, Its right in the price range too, I won't have to pay much extra (if at all)

Could someone tell me what's so special about this SB-800 flash I hear people raving about?

What makes this particular configurable lightbulb that sticks in a little slot on your camera better than any other random configurable lightbulb that sticks in a little slot on your camera?

I kind of figured that out by looking at your list of lenses, but I just had to throw something different in the mix. You should be pleased with the SB-800 and 85 f/1.8

Its powerfull, which matters for the sports I shoot, And it has a lot of options the SB-600 doesn't (Such as the multiple strobes per exposure, and ability to control the other Flash's without contributing to the exposure)).

The Sb-600 is perfect for 90% of things i shoot, but the SB-800 is fantastic at the other 10%

Firstly, it doesn't need to be slot on the damn slot, using CLS or SU-4 for other times.

High GN, lower power output at 1/128, and you can use them with Pocket Wizards.
