Hay GUISE LOL, WATS GOIN ON IN DIS TRED???

Seriously though, I bought a Canon Powershot A570IS the other day, and I'm having a little trouble connecting it to mah pee sea. I've had it work before, but now suddenly, it just does not connect properly...

The camera is "off".
I plug the USB cable in.
I switch the setting to "View" instead of "Shoot"
I turn the Power "On"
I hear the "bling blung" from my pc, telling me it has acknowledged that I connected a working USB device
Then, nothing. No popup window, nothing at "my computer", nothing at all to show that the camera has connected. I've read the manual, and I'm not making any mistakes at all, so help me out, hurrrrrrrrr

Is your camera acknowledging that it's connected to a PC? You might want to have the camera on beforehand if it is not. When I connect my Canon point and shoot, it changes to "PC-mode"

I think something similar happened to me a while ago, but that was at a time when pretty much all my PC's operations were gradually breaking down. For example, MSPaint decided not to load when I tried to open it. I got the symptoms you've described with my Canon EOS 30D. I had to reinstall the camera software (along with reinstalling Windows and everything else) to get it working properly again.

get yourself a USB-card reader that fits to the type of card your camera uses. It is cheap, it is faster than your camera, and you can use it on other computers without installing the drivers for your camera on them first.
If you cant afford the 5$ for the card-reader then uninstall the driver and the softwear for your camera - reboot and reinstall again, following the instructions carefully.
That should do it.

Do you have the Canon software installed? Canon cameras don't just show up as drives like most cameras do...

Also, I second the recommendation to get a card reader.

seconding the just buy a card reader option.

i didn't get one until i had to read an old mmc card, but even though it's a brandless $19 one it transfers files easily 6x faster than just plugging the cable straight into my camera(canon A series)

also saves battery life on the camera, which is a big plus in my opinion.
