A week or so we talked about copying Avedon's style.
Here's my attempt.
I'd like to see /p/'s efforts. Unless you are too busy trolling to shoot.

im terrible with lighting explain plz <3

Nice. Two problems, though:

1. Whenever Avedon shot color, it tended to be more rich and saturated than that is.
2. I can't think of a single photograph of his where the subject is sitting. (In before someone pulls one out, but I honestly can't, and the point is it isn't typical.)

But otherwise good work.

i like the lighting there
what was your setup?
>> Anonymous
>>224297
Good call on both points. I was more trying to nail the technical aspects before moving on to copying his portraiture style. Expect more next weekend.

>>224296
The first shot is with a hotshoe flash bounced of the ceiling, with a reflector on the bottom of the frame.

The second shot is two hotshoes, one optically triggered with a white foam homemade light panel facing the wall, and the other bounced of the ceiling.

I know Avedon used white paper in diffused light, or in shadows, but the gig I built is not cutting it yet.

Lemmie guess you put the foil on your teeth afterwards?

next time you do one of these shots... could you take a photo of your setup?

You know, you can always find places to lay stuff down in the kitchen.

>>224305
Sure. Pic related. Was shooting in a corner with the optical trigger facing the wall.

What an ugly hat. And also, I don't like front lighting. I'm more of a dramatic lighting guy.
>> Anonymous
It's not a hat it's a collander.
And it's not front lighting. Bounced off the ceiling and reflected at the bottom.
>> Anonymous
>>224399
I meant front lighting as in not from the sides or back. The lack of shadows (or soft shadows if you are so picky) on the face is not natural in my opinion. I don't care what the rules are.
>> Anonymous
>>224402
there are rules?

OP, are you sending a subliminal message by taking a bite of that CRACKER?

Yes.
This was intentional. Crackers are delicious and should be eaten.

crackers as in white people.....
i like the first one enough
the 2nd one is a good attempt at his style but ruined by the fact that the guy is sitting and boring.
