>>291428 it's much better to take the lens off, flip up the mirror (set the camera to a manual exposure and a 5 second shutter or so then hit the release) and put the dot in the middle of the sensor. Be careful though, it'll screw with your white balance if you put it too far off-centre, but you'll get at least a 50% boost in pixel resolution if you do it right. This way you don't have to do this for every lens you own.
They don't do this at the factory cause it slows down the AF tracking and can confuse the meter, but it's no problem if you're not shooting sports or something.
