What are you going to use it for, honestly? Unless you're constantly shooting wildlife or sports, in which case you may need an even longer lens, what's the advantage of having one of these? I do have a 100-500 in my bag, not Nikkor, but i barely ever use it.

If you want it, buy it, as long as you'll use it.

It has little to do with the specs, and everything to do with the poster (including the lens pic). There's just something about the design that doesn't look very professional.

Agreed. I've never seen a pro-grade zoom of that size with a zoom or focus ring so far towards the front. There's just too much seperation between focus and zoom. This lens would be very cumbersome to use day-to-day. Nikon engineers do better design work than this.

There's nothing wrong with the specs. It's certainly possible to build something like this. Canon sells a 100-400/f4.5-5.6 with an image stabilizer for $1400, and Sigma makes a 50-500/f4-6.3 for $1000. 100-500/f4-5.6 is only half a stop faster than the Sigma at the long end. The ad just happens to be fake in this case.
