I picked up my 50mm f/1.8 II for christmas based on /p/ 's recomendations.
So far im pretty happy with it, still taking some getting used to but i'll survive

So here I am again asking on a recomendation for another lens i would like ot pick up in the next 6 months. I'm looking for another general photography lens before I start to focus on telephoto and or macro lenses.

using a 350d and am quite happy with it

I upgraded my 18-55 II to an 18-55 IS. I'd say it was definitely worth it. I fairly rarely used my 18-55 kit lens, but it's become my standard lens for most occasions since getting the IS version.

Flash expands your photography a lot more than a lens.

I've seen a lot of people get a bag full of primes thinking 'the hell with flash!' But they all come crawling back eventually.

I would agree with this as well. Reading the Strobist blog made me have a little renaissance with my 18-55 kit lens. It suddenly became incredibly useful in the shooting situations I tended to find myself in most often.

I'd still recommend the 18-55 IS, since sometimes you just don't want to deal with carrying around a big pile of off-camera lighting gear, but learning to light things properly so the kit lens is useful is more valuable than just getting a new lens.

Crawling is right. Because they're so sad everyone they photograph with flash looks like an alien.
