Easier than not having a meter? Or easier than using your camera's built in reflective meter?

Either way, I completely agree.

Sorry, I meant to say "easier than using my camera's reflective meter."

I don't really see it been more 'easy' than using the camera's inbuilt reflective meter at all, in fact more cumbersome.
But light meters are wonderful when you need one (like i use mine for my medium format work)

Ive got that same meter.

I consider it easier than a reflective meter because you don't have to worry about what spot you point the thing at. I shoot chromes, and getting an accurate exposure is really important. I don't have to carry a grey card around, or average multiple readings. A singe incident reading works every time.

When I shoot using the spot meter, I have to first take a guess at the exposure, then look at the LCD and adjust from there if I'm not right on the first guess.

For example, I'll point the spot meter at a white person's face, and make the exposure read +1 or so. Sure that's a good guess most of the time, but I constantly have to check to make sure it was an accurate guess. Usually it isn't. I was using this thing a lot today, and it was spot-on for every exposure.

One of your lights is in the frame...

I'm still looking for a good light meter. I have a Pentax Digital Spotmeter, but it'll go on eBay tonight to fund a good other meter. I'm looking for a good incident light meter with flash option, and spot if possible. (Does not have to be 1 degree) And shouldn't cost too much.

yeah, but he was getting shopped out onto a different background anyway.

Why not just use a histogram if you're shooting digital? (If I'm not mistaken, you do.) This won't tell you how much you can overexpose the file without blowing the highlights.

But also this:

>But light meters are wonderful when you need one (like i use mine for my medium format work)

If I shot film, I'd definitely use one.
