i know photo gear questions are boring especially when dealing with ones that are asked a lot, but my girlfriend has US$250 set aside for a point and shoot to keep in her purse. currently what is the best camera under or right at 250? she wants something that can shoot relatively well in lowlight situations. what do you suggest?

Does she want it compact or does it matter?

something that can fit in a bag, it doesn't have to be an elph or one of those dinky canons. it just has to have decent image quality and decent low light performance.

I carry a $180 GE E840s around in my purse. It's tiny enough to fit easily in the little built in coin purse that I never use. It's a pretty good, if massively underrated, camera, but I wouldn't really recommend it because you CAN get better for the price. Dunno why I went on that tangent.

Id recommend a Canon Powershot A720, personally.

Fuji F30fd

Currently the best high iso performance of any point-n-shoot, and really fucking cheap.

Else, get an older Canon Powershot (g5?) which had a lens at f/2.

The F30 is probably my favorite P&S of all time, they've gotten progressively worse since the F30.
