So, I have enough points at a certain vendor website to choose one of these budget cameras for my wife. I'm trying to get her something with decent to strong quality, an easy interface, and the ability to expand usability with user experience. Any Suggestions?

First one: Fujifilm FinePix S700
"This 7.1-megapixel/SLR-type camera features a 10x optical zoom and 2.5" LCD monitor. A user-friendly shooting guide makes using the versatile functions simple. Capture astonishing images as close as one centimeter or shoot 30 frames-per-second of smooth, high-quality video. Comes with automatic exposure and focus in movie mode, plus electronic image stabilization technology."

Canon, unfortunately, isn't in the list of free shit I can choose. There are other brands, but I'm not going to seriously consider Sanyo or Casio Exilims as alternatives. There is also an entry-level Cybershot, which is just bad all over. I want to choose something that she can use to gain basic to intermediate photography experience. Then again, maybe that's asking a lot considering the options available. Please continue giving me your opinions. Thanks.

I'd actually recommend the s700. I have one of these and it was great until I moved to an SLR. You may get some slight barrel distortion and CA, but usually hugely noticeable. And you don't really need more than 7.1 megapixels anyway.

It's wayyy too fuckin' huge though. No point and shoot advanteges, and no SLR advanteges. It's a failure in the middle.

as a superzoom compact faggot i would say that 10X optical is a pretty good advantage, and it certainly means you can do more with the camera than with a regular P&S

Actually it has all the manual settings that you would find on a D-SLR, only difference is you can't change the lens. I own one and it is what got me interested in photography enough to get my 40D. It's also good because it gives you a slight taste of what it means to own a D-SLR, you know the inability to slam it into your pocket.

Even though I own a 350D, I still love my little 3.2Mp finepix S5000. Convenience of a P&S, but with a manual setting.

I love my S5700 and I keep it in my pocket... It fits. It's snug but it fits.

Casio Exilims = Underrated for a P&S

I disagree, I owned one and didn't like it at all. (Z120)
Although a few of my best pictures are taken with that camera, Its overall very crappy quality.

I've used that first camera. It's nice. Better than your other choices. It should be plenty for the beginner and anyone to start learning photography.
