I have a Canon Powershot A520.

I've been thinking of getting a new camera, but I do not have alot of money to spend (<$300) I want to do more of landscape/nature (or even HDR) photography and is looking for something that can do photos in widescreen (wide angle lens?)

What should I get?

Stick with your A520 until you can afford an SLR. Given its small sensor (which means much more depth of field for your aperture), it's probably better for landscape/nature than otherwise better cameras.

The "widescreen" effect that most cameras generate is done by simply cropping out the edges of the shot, which you can do yourself. If you're talking panoramas, I'm pretty sure that the A520 has a special panoramic mode where it helps you line up the pictures from shot to shot to make it easier to stitch (I know my PowerShot A95 does, but I'm too lazy to look up specs on the A520).

I know the draw of getting more gear is a powerful one, but hold off until you can make that gear purchase really mean something and not just get a marginally better P&S.

Or you can just Autostitch

Or use PTgui for panorama stitching. Also, it's a shame you don't have any of these other cameras.

Maybe you can get an S3 IS and load CHDK for it.

OP here

I'm just talking about "normal" widescreen effects, similar to what you can get on newer miniDV cams.

Agreed. It would be nice to have options on the A520 for shooting in different aspect ratios, and not only a fixed one of 4:3.

I hate having to crop my pictures because I would like to have them printed eventually and there is a significant loss of the frame when printing to 4x6. When cropping for 8x10, there is less loss of pixels but I really don't want my prints to be that large. :(
