carrying cases Anonymous
I've been lurking /p/ for a while and haven't seen this question yet, so please forgive me if this is an old question

i just got a nikon D40(pic related hurrr) and i had to trade my old decent pocket camera as part of the deal. i have pretty big pockets, but the D40 is NOT a pocket camera. i don't really have the money for a smaller secondary camera, but i wanna get the same use out of this one i did my old.
this is taking to long
the D40 is too big for a pocket, what case could i get to carry it with me pretty much everywhere that wouldn't just hang off my neck, making me look like a dork and/or tourist?

and just so this isn't a total waste, how does /p/ carry its camera? i can't imagine you all just let the big DSLR cams hang off you neck, asking for it to rain or swing into a wall.

I carry my D80 in a Lowepro SlingShot 100AW

Question, though... what made you go for a D40?

it's for a college digital photography class...
I've always loved photography, but this gave me an excuse to get my dad to help pay for a real camera (lol college student income)
D40 was recommended by the teacher for its price and performance...and i havent seen a single bad review for it

thats what i have right now
if i were to wear that i'd feel like a dork...kinda why i'm asking for alternatives
also lost the strap for it, so i can only really carry is by the handle as of now

and yea, just the body and default lens
maybe i should just suck it up and look like a dork everywhere i go?

If you're worried about looks, return the camera right now and go over to /fit/. People are going to stare at you, "normal" bag or not, especially when you pull the camera out and find yourself leaning over some railing in the middle of school to get a shot.

That`s fair enough. It is very, very well priced when you weigh it up against performance. The only real downside is that you only get autofocus on the AF-S lenses. This was something that eventually forced me to get a D80.

This is my 100AW by the way... I keep 4 lenses, my flash, my battery grip, camera, and all accessories in there ?

Apparently I forgot to clear the EXIF... and apparently I forgot to reset my settings from earlier... I wondered why the colours looked funny in that photo...

Worrying about looking like a dork makes you miss shots.

Get over it.

LowePro makes excellent bags, as does Crumpler. Neither are cheap.
