Getting the exposure right... even D70s' shitty ISO performance does okay.

Critiques please /p/

Thats pretty decent considering its the D70s's ISO 800, I used to DESPISE that camera's ISO at anything above 640. (Then I got a IR converted D70, and somehow the ISO at even 1600 looks fine to me now)

As for the pics, First one would be great, EXCEPT the lighting on her dress is just soo bleh... 2nd one is better, but too much red (not that you had much choice)
and 3rd shot looks like you were trying to antiframe it, except the dude in the white shirt is throwing everything out of whack.

Good job with an f2.8 lens though, I never even try these venues without at least f1.8 (if shooting without a flash)

lol

your iso 800 looks like my 3200
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>133669

hahah yeah, that's the beauty of a 3 year old camera... a 3 yr old nikon at that :D

>>133665

The D70s doesn't hold highlights very well, you can obviously tell. I would have liked more front lighting on the second but the colour i'm quite happy with... though the highlight problem is there again.

What's antiframe? and that's a chick in the white shirt :D the white shirt does suck balls since it drains light away from the background when there's a guy right behind her.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>133680
maybe i'm the only one that calls it that, anti or negative framing is where you place something in the edge of the picture (usually 1/3 or 2/3) but have it facing into the short side of the pic, so there is a large space behind the subject.

I assumed you were going for the guy semi facing the camera, didn't realize you meant to focus on the white shirt chick...

The Microphone and it's silhouette on the light.

Those fuckers in the band were shit. Fuck them. :D

Comparing the D70s to 30D in terms of ISO? man. No need.

>>133780

LOL. Vince is more than entitled to his opinion, just like everyone else :)

Constructive criticism i can take any day of the week :D

So so so back on point... is the skin tone better with>>133769as opposed to>>133648??
>> Compton
>>133782
It looks the same. Skin tone, I mean. Looks good, more purple in the first one because of the stage lights. But the skin tone is pretty much the same.
>> eku !8cibvLQ11s
>>133644

This one would have been the best, if only she had both hands visible.

>>133784

oh really? so which one looks better in terms of skin tones to you then?

>>133789

here's one with both hands and arms in. But i def agree with you. Both hands in would have been nice... but then the composition wouldnt be whjat it is... bah... :D

On my monitor (uncalibrated), I like the skin tone in this one and the first one the best. But I actually like the second pic better for the crop. Between the two versions of the second pic i don't really have an opinion. Best thing to do is calibrate your monitor, make prints, decide for yourself on details like that. Everyone on the internet has a different monitor, these all look different to each of us when you get down to color.

Fantastic shot, I guess my problem with vincents critiques is I have yet to see any good concert/dj shots from him....
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>133979

hehe it's okay, honestly you don;t necessarily need to take certain photos to know what you like and how you like it. Know what i mean?

I really appreciate it though :)

>>133648

Although below shots are usually very iffy, I like this one best.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>133811
This one is my favorite, would have been nice to have the other hand totally in the pic like you were saying. However because the DOF falls on the Mic and her face, its a moot point really.
Spotlights are a nice touch too.

>>133979
Lol then we agree on something, Although I have a few favorites, of my club pics (Haven't taken any concert ones yet) I'm not particularily impressed with my photo's. The shot's i visualize sometimes require a press pass, And the fickle nature of club lighting and a very packed dance floor mean theres a lot of inherent randomness to the pictures.
Concerts would be a tad better for predictability (Ambient light) However I have yet to shoot one.
