here is my first try at cross processing, any tips or tricks? what film does /p/ recommend for the best results?

picture taken with a nikkormat at f/4 and 30/s
film is Kodak Elite Chrome 400

also what does /p/ think of processing negative film in slide chemicals?

Give it a try. It should give a cyan-blue cast as opposed to the red-orange cast going slide film to neg chemistry. Obviously there is going to be some randomness involved.

For neg film in slide chem, look for subjects that you want a cool/cold tone to because that's about all you're going to get: blue.

For me pulling some old Kodak RG 400 by a stop or two and then pushing the chemistry (stale Arista E6) at higher temps produced less fog but contrast was always pretty flat. Using fresh Kodak E6 got slightly better results. YMWV.
