You don't get any love because we get dozens of these threads every fucking day. Is it really that hard to just search online for camera reviews or just go to your local camera shop and try them out?
>> Anonymous
first rule of /p/
don't you fucking listen to butterfly or any of his sony cheap fanboism

either the rebel xti or d40x are good choices new, with their respective 50mm f/1.8 lens...
choose your system and you are good to go.

remember this, sony sucks balls. hard.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>93586
*sigh*

you are an idiot, i dont mind you trolling me about the sony shit i dont really care but when you are talking to other people (ie anon) you need to remember that you are a fucking stupid peice of shit with no brains that acts on impulses that you dont seem to be able to control. If you really wanted to do something usefull i suggest going out and playing with traffic because you life has no purpose here. if you want to ruin someone elses time by telling them to waste money and go against the general advice here then fine do it, but dont drag me into your shitty world where names are everything.

>>93571

get a D40X or a D80 if you can afford... rebel is ok too.
>> Anonymous
>>93577
Good cheap lens and camera, but the combo amounts to an 80mm prime, which is balls.
>> Anonymous
>>93597

Then go to sleep and quit shitting up 4chan.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>93598
we're already in the middle of a shitstorm over the D40X, and the kitlens is shit but you wont know that till you get a prime. which you could have gotten if you got the vanilla d40.
>> Anonymous
>>93600

You dont appear to be in a shitstorm over it...

in fact that other guy agreed with me. D40x is expensive but with a twin lens kit its a decent buy. very clear images, easy to use, not as many functions as the D80 but hey what do you expect for half the price..
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>93602

You must not lurk here much. It's a tired old argument here and elsewhere on the net. Anyone in the know understands that the D40 is just as good and is much cheaper than the D40x. Many Nikon users prefer the D50 or the D70 even thanks to it being able to use more lenses, especially many good primes.
>> Anonymous
>>93605

understandable, but as starter dslrs go its ok right? Ive read into its "many" problems.. and as far as i can tell none of them are particularly crippling for a starter. I use Manual focus on mine mostly anyway... so that cures that.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>93611

It's fine as a starter camera, especially if someone else is paying for it! The main gripe is that it wasn't enough of an upgrade to justify the price hike. That's why the older models are always suggested instead. Also the problem where you might be able to pick up a D70s for the same price as it and avoid the problems of the D40 type cameras.

Manual focus isn't so good on the D40(x) models thanks to the bad viewfinder either. That was another gripe - no autofocus with certain lenses and the manual focus is hellish to compound the problem. It's easier for both beginners and veterans to have a big and bright viewfinder. Good autofocus is a huge boon, especially with a bad viewfinder. There were some other issues, but I think that's the main ones.

>>93622

my friends just ordered one from ebay... think i should tell him to cancel it?
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>93623

Would he be hurting for the cash? If he's got money to burn then it's okay, but if he's on a budget then he'd probably be better off with the D40 and more/better glass if he was really wanting an entry level Nikon system at the best value. The difference in cost might mean an extra lens for many folk.

The option are out there, it's worth researching them before taking the plunge. Something to consider. You/they will have to decide what suits them best.
>> Anonymous
op here, and i've done my research which led me to the D40. I'm only a beginner and i am on a budget, considering someone thinks that i shouldn't be wasting so much on a camera. thanks for all the help anon.
>> Anonymous
>>93571
I'm conceived with everyone
get d40 or rebel if you are in budget
if you can find d50 or d70 used is fine

also, sony is crap.

Fail for recommending the D40x.

Fail hard for recommending the D40x with a lens it can't autofocus.

Okay, buy an alpha and enjoy your autofocus

here, we see the definition of cheap fanboyism
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>93703
its outright sarcasam not cheap fanboyisim.

The A100 is better than the D40(x), face it. IT IS, but it costs more so thats that. Better camera bigger price. Is it better than the D80, i dont know, but thats what its aimed at.

ITT sony and Butterfly are shitty

ive got a D40x, it was expensive, but its a good camera.. Af lens or not. The kit lens' (18-55 and 55-200) are both good quality.

...I agree however that in retrospect a d80 would of been a better quality buy, but im happy with this cameras output. Id say its good for noobies. INBOUND SHITSTORM AHOY.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>93780
Actually, image quality doesn't really jump until you go up to a D3. The better bodies give you things like the ability to autofocus with more lenses, more autofocus points, etc. I.e., they are more convenient to use, they don't really let you take better pictures.
>> Anonymous
>>93783

From D80 and upwards you can buy a grip for portrait shots. It definitely helps you to take better pictures.
>> Anonymous
>>93785
that sounds convenient.

every time I flip my camera vertically without a vertical grip, I have to spend hours afterwards picking up the pieces that fall out.
>> ????? !wAHA/GeRU.
>>93785
You can get a third party grip for the D50 and the D70. You can even find one for the D40/D40X.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>93785
The vertical grip makes it *easier* to take pictures, but you can just turn your D40 sideways and get the same shot. The image quality from the sensor is close enough to identical that it's not worth arguing about even on the Internet, is my point.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>93799

Although I agree with you about the sensors being close in performance, I think many would disagree on the idea of it being worth arguing about judging by the endless pixel by pixel comparisons and analysis out there. There's always someone willing to argue about it. After all, this is the internet.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>93809
I'm not saying people *won't* argue about it on the Internet, I'm just saying it's not *worth* arguing about on the Internet.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ

Ah, but value is subjective. ;)
