Okay, normally I chill in /b/, but I just realized theres a photography section, so here I am.

I am wonder what the best Bang for the Buck digital SLR is right now ...Under $1000. I've been looking at the Nikon D40x, just because I'm a fan of Nikon, but I'm open to reviews/suggestions.

Primarily I like to shoot landscapes, weather, things like that, but the occasional closeup is nice too.

Since the d90 came out, you can probably get the d80 at a discount, making it a very good choice. Of course the d40 would be even cheaper, but the d80 is certainly in your budget, and has much, much more functionality.

canon 450D (rebel XTi) is definately the best, good image quality and great price (if you know where to buy it, ive saw it as cheep as £232 before which is like $450)
also good metering system and also its not overdone, its just right where as nikon d80 is too overdone and an extra 400 pounds ( 700 dollars )

Pentax K10D, hands down.

Weather sealed, tons of features, great ergonomics, and comes with a really good kit lens.
