Hello /p/,

I'm in college, 3rd year graphic design.

Now, we've seen that for offset printing you need photos to be at 300dpi. Now, I'm getting into photography, and wondered at what resolution cameras take photos at? Mine seems to make 72dpi photos. To make them 300dpi I change them in photoshop, leaving me with a much smaller picture. So like, what steps does a photo take from it being taken to making it into the paper? (I know the route it must take, I mean what manipulations it needs to be printed on offset presses from being taken.)

Thanks, and I hope this isn't too confusing D:

you have issues if you're into this for 3 years without knowing how resolution works

DPI has no relevance in cameras, on your screen, it doesn't fucking matter

i can make a 2 pixels by 2 pixels JPG with 9000 DPI

you look at your fucking resolution in pixels, 3888 pixels by 2595 pixels, then put that shit in Photoshop, set resolution at 300 and you'll see how large it will be at 300 DPI

sheesh

Out of the camera , photos just have dots. They don't have inches until they're displayed or printed. So asking what dpi a camera takes photos at is like how many miles a tank of gas is without specifying the vehicle it's going in.

It should not have taken you 3 years to figure this out.
