This is quite a decent shot. Post some more.

I like the contrast here, and composition isn't bad. Don't like the tree in the background, it spoils the harmony. A simple cut below its level will perfectly fix it.

Here are some basic advices for photographing architecture:

Though they are not necessarily relevant to your photo.

thanks for the feedback and the page.

here's another shot, the camera wasn't mine, and i played a litle with its features ... i think i played to much.

a think the composition is a bit off balance as well. what do you say?

You're either very lucky, or trolling about being new to photography. :)

This is a great shot, especially if not post-processed. I'd just cut the empty space at the bottom, and, ultra-nitpick, 2 rows of pixels at the top to get rid of the trace of that ceiling light.

And then I'd go smash my head against the wall for not shooting it in higher resolution. :3

well, i did mess with the levels in photoshop, to spike the contrast. I'm used to do it with other peoples photos, now i'm starting to make my own :)

here it is, se if this is what you meant. now with higher resolution, for the win!!

You're doing a good job so far. :) Good for you there's a hi-res; I thought 800x600 written in exif was the original res it was shot at. That'd be a shame.

As for the crop, I meant rather cut more of the bottom (like, up to just below the reflection of the hand on the right), and do not cut on the left. Without the left part, the picture lacks some anchor point, and becomes chaotic. That's how I feel, but this is your photo - you might (and should) have a point in doing like you did.

thanks for the input, and you're right about the left part. Has you said before i'm a bit lucky, I believe i don't think much about the composition, so sometimes i don't notice mistakes i might make, from taking some element, ou puting another.

thanks again :)

By lucky I mostly meant talented. :) The pictures you posted so far show that you have a very good natural sense of composition, which is something to be treasured. Keep shooting. :)

The>>31175photo is very good composition-wise, too. I would have cropped it a bit from each side (more from the right) to make it more "condensed", but I'm a cropping nazi recently. :)

Just get a "real" camera.>>31175has horrible, horrible quality. It might look semi-ok on the monitor, but things will turn nasty once you want to make a print bigger than a postcard from it. An SLR would give you most artistic freedom and room to experiment, if you're serious about photography.

do you suggest any particular model or brand?

this is now a SLR camera showdown thread :D

My mom wants to know where you took that pic, and if you can take a pic of the rocks that sorta look like a dog according to her.....

As far as brand is concerned, Canon or Nikon are usually the ubiquitous DSLR choices; they make good cameras. They're not the only good ones, but they are usually very reliable.

Pentax ME Super. As far as manual film bodies go. :) Can't help you with digital ones. Though I believe the rule that it's all in the optics holds there as well. In other words, the body affects your convenience and ability to take a specific shot (eg. by having a wide times range), but it's the lens that affects your picture quality.

Here's THE resource on Pentax cameras: http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/

And the answer as to why Pentax (or K-mount actually): http://www.bdimitrov.de/kmp/technology/K-mount/index.html

Hope this helps.
