Anyway, yeah. It sucks. I don't see anything interesting about the watch at all. Since it's shot in black and white, it should have some texture or something that grabs attention. You shouldn't just shoot in b&w just because you like the look of it. Already, half of it is in shadow and there's nothing really to say about the background either. I really can't blame /p/ for not commenting on it in general.
Maybe this is better in color if the watch had a vibrant color strap or something. This is probably my only suggestion.
As for digital vs. film, photography is photography. You still need to master the basics of composition and focus. If you're asking between dSLR and SLR, there's really no difference but your wallet will sure feel it.
