dear /p/,
How good of a camera do you need to get pictures like this one?
Or is it mainly photoshop?
>> Macheath
Just about any SLR can take an image of that quality, but you'll need a decent lens.

A decent SLR, nothing over $600 to be honest and yes, that picture is photoshopped so it's not all the camera.

Wait, what?

You can take that picture with just about any camera that offers manual controls. Large aperture and/or long focal length to get the small depth of field. And then just overexpose the bejeezus out of it to get the blown out highlights on the plants.

Additionally: This photo kind of sucks.

ya that's pretty much it.

And indeed that picture sucks.

You could always had saturation and contrast on Photoshop for the overexposure part although it'd work better directly on the camera.

Not to mention that one of the more difficult parts is getting a pretty lady to put up with being photographed. The camera won't help you find them if you don't already have any as friends or family.

i don't think this photo can be done without photoshop. the foliage is completely blown out and yellow+green saturated while the girl remains in leveled out. components with different exposures in a single shot isn't something you can pull off without image editing.

getting the depth of field seen here is easily possible with a good slr, but the exposure and color will have to played with after the photo has been taken to get anything as surreal as these colors are.
>> Sammi
A good camera is only half of it, just because you have an SLR doesn't mean you'll get a good shot. You actually need a good photographer, someone with an eye for composition and color.

This actually isn't as hard as everyone is making it out to be for the colouring. Simply shoot in RAW instead of JPG on a dSLR, and play around with the conversion process yourself. Manually adjusting white balance of a RAW image can easily produce the colour combinations of this image (the difference between the model and the plants)

lol you guys are such nerds

Girls are way easier to find than decent cameras. I have a $3 camera and I've never been turned down when I've asked a lady to pose.

That being said I will agree with the rest of this thread - Any camera with manual controls, pref. an SLR, mostly shopped, not the greatest pic.

OP Here...

I was supposed to work the the fellow who took this picture at an Anime Convention. He turned out to be a pedophile and a total douche bag to anywho who isnt a 16 year old girl or a skinny chick. So, basically, to counter the doucheness (is that even a word?) I want to do Photography at Anime Cons and not be a pervert about it.

A lot of Cosplayers seem to enjoy these types of pictures...
(Another one of his pictures for more discussion...Sadly, my stick isn't workin' for some reason on my laptop. >.<)

>Sadly, my stick isn't workin' for some reason on my laptop.

There's a pill you can take for that now.
>> lathen
i have a super old canon point and shoot that still uses compact flash and can get things that look like this. like others have said. it's the photographer not the camera.
>> Anonymous
Fuck, is there anyway this shot could be achieved without photoshop? The only way how I could see it is if you had flashes set up in 15 different places.
>> Anonymous
God, it looks like shit, composition is nice, but colors are unbearably disgusting.

If you want to oversaturate the hell out of a pic, DSLRs (Nikon at least) lets you load custom levels.

risingsun.net is an awful person.
Maraboshi may take nice pictures, but he is a huge asshole.
I was at an Aime Convention in South Florida a few days ago and they were doing a Photography Panel on the Dos and Donts of Cosplay photography. The kids were talking and one kid says "You need to get into the picture, don't just take a picture..take a Photograph you will want to look at again and again" or something like that. He then proceeds to badmouth these kids and harass the one girl throughout the weekend.

He is also a pedophile. The pictures are good, yes, but sometimes, the photograph doesn't matter, the photographer does. If you can take wonderful pictures, but you have an awful attitude, then really, it doesn't matter.
and Yes, that picture is photoshopped to hell.

Sounds like he'd be perfect for /p/.

You know, except for the "can take wonderful pictures" part.
