YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
>> Anonymous
I've only ever gone shooting with friends, so I don't listen to music.
>> Anonymous
I also seldom listen to music while out shooting, but if i'm doing some still lives or staged shots indoors i usually have As Tall AS Lions or The Snake The Cross The Crown playing.
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
When I shoot urban stuff...
Isis, Blonde Redhead, Eisley, Justice, M.I.A., Clipse, The Decemberists, Tool, Hard-Fi and Caribou.
:]

i never shoot with friends, i can't concentrate on what i'm doing/can't make a good effort when i'm with someone. i always listen to music when i shoot, and it's almost always lamb of god or chimaira... something about metal helps me concentrate

Whatevers blasting in the clubs, normaly the top 50 commercial house shit thats been touted by all the wanabe djs.

On the rare occasion it can go anywhere from deep minimal tech to banging hardcore mayhem (esp if i have anything to do with the djing)

When landscaping its probably yet more dance music (dj first, photographer 2nd) or whatever emo shit i feel like being depressed with!

i dont listen to music as i need my wits about me.

i can't have some negro coming up behind me and shanking me for my XTi

i never listen to music ay.

photography is my "place" to get away from all the b/s and noise/business/hassle of normal life.

its nice to go chillout and walk through the forest or along a beach and just listen to whats happening instead of cars going past, people talking etc.

it could also come down to where you shoot. if its noisy, a bit of ambient music noise would be nicer than crap "white sound"

For night photography, I don't wander alone. Phoenix isn't a bad town, but wandering around at 1am with a couple grand of kit on my own isn't a good idea.

i've done a lot of night photography, and you're right. 1am can be kind of sketchy. What I finally figured out is to go shoot about 3 or 4 hours later. 3-4am is like, the absolute deadest part of the day. The bars are closed, most people are in bed (including a lot of the criminal element, if you will), there's little car traffic to muck up exposures, so on and so forth. Plus, if you stay out for another hour and a half, you get the sunrise and all the interesting lighting that it presents.

The only hard part is.. waking up. or staying awake. You pretty much have to be entirely nocturnal or an early-rising baker (or waker) to be awake and functioning at that time of the day. There's a reason no one's out at that time.

That's the exact problem I have - one of my favourite times to shoot but waking up/staying awake is hard. Strangely it wasn't a problem when I was unemployed...

As for music I usually just random-all the zen, 3000 tracks so something is bound to affect me. The other day I was listening to a little self produced album from a friend of a friend which is pretty much 70mins of melodic white noise, there was something peaceful in that, no more lyrics or beats to get caught up with, just ambient noise to drown out the city.

I go out shooting in Liverpool (3rd highest guncrime in the uk!) quite a lot at night on my own. I do stick to the city centre area (where I live) not the suburbs so I think thats why I dont see anyone else / dont have problems. No one else lives here.

When I'm out shooting, I usually have my camera bag and my SLR wrapped around my neck. Having headphones on would add another level of complexity to rearranging things if I need to bag my SLR for some reason (e.g., going into a place where photography's forbidden, climbing up someplace steep, etc). So, generally no music for me.

I end up listening to a lot of Daft Punk while shooting, but if not them then something like Modest Mouse or Sage Francis

I tend to shoot in places I shouldn't be all too often, so I gotta keep my ears pealed at all times. Industrial night photography is the best. When Im driving around though between shooting its all about Jungle/Drum and Bass, my buddy mixes some sick sets.

I don't like the idea of using a camera whilst wearing in-ear monitors around town on my own, so I tend not to listen whilst shooting. Besides, I'm usually drunk when I'm in a photographing mood - so I don't have my camera, but do have tunes. When I have my camera I'm in the car, but sober. So therefore I've got my regular tunes and no inspiration.

I plan on shooting the local countryside and the airport soon - I think I'll listen to some shoegaze or ambient if I'm on my own or something like DJ Yoda or dance if I'm with friends.

Stuff off psyence fiction or their new album?

Anyway i dont listen to music while shotting because:
A) i find it distracting
B) Dont feel comfortable holding a big black rebel xt on the streets of baltimore while being distracted...

no singing- all piano. Other stuff off his Autumn in New England album really sucks, though.

iTunes says it's classical.

I laughed.

But yeah, I don't listen to anything. I hate being oblivious to the world around me, especially when I'm near busy streets.

My player stopped working, but I probably wouldn't use it while shooting anyway. Just more cords to get in the way.

I tend to go with some Bark Psychosis, Khonnor, Porn Sword Tobacco or Radium88. Find them very soothing, and isolated for in the night.
