Going to major in photography and yet have no idea what SLR to choose.

My suggestion: Find a major that's actually worth something, honestly.

I wasn't gonna say it at first, but this anon is right. Majoring in photo is both very expensive and very, very stupid unless you're ridiculously talented (maybe you are, I dunno). Best thing is to do a dual major or minor in in photography and major in something else more presentable.

Just so you know the average salary for professional photographers (people who earn their entire salary through photography) is 24K annually, which is below the poverty line. Of course some photographers make bank-- the problem is is a bunch don't.

OP here..and saddly i know...more expense then income basically unless your really good..and then its all a matter of advertisement and who wants you to take your picture..i've just been interested in photography for a very long while and it seems like a good place to start is gathering info here and other places around the net

anyone who gives advice to this guy is a tool. save yourself the 10-something thousand dollar debt and get an actual, real major.

tell your parents that you want to major in photog. and hopefully they're smart enough to talk you out of it. take it from a photography major...
i can't even make complete sentences, and i'm still here just like you posting on 4chan. i also work at the olive garden

have fun

A good entry level SLR is the Nikon FM10.

I wouldn't major in something you're both new too and don't really have an idea about, especially it being photography. By all means buy a camera and shoot it for a year, but take a year off study to see if it's what you really wanna do, or study something else for a year.

Also ebay's hit and miss. Get it from KEH.com.

>hey guys i don't have a camera and i have no clue what to look for in a camera but all i know is i got $250 bucks and today i feel like getting a major in photography so anything for 250 that will get me all the way through school will do fine thanks.

I just picked up my parents Canon AE-1 and I love it. There are a million of them, lots of acessorys, and should be way under $250.
