hai /p/

I'm thinking about getting a wide converter lens for my cam. (size: 58mm)
the thing is, i've learned that it does not hurt to ask for cons of things before buying them so tell me /p/:
What are the cons of using a wide converter lens?

Obviously, I need it to have a wider angle - be it for wider landscape pics or generaly getting more into one pic.

op here.

btw i've got a used 52mm (or 49, depensing on the ring used) wide converter lens by Ta-something (forgot the name lol).
I was thinking about trading it for a used 58mm converter lens.

Also, here's a link to the genuine Sony-lens:

Ah, the problem is that the lens would cost > 9000... ok not that much but let's say 120euro. and that would be more than half the price of the cam itself => i would never spend that much money on a wide converter.

So, are there cheaper ones or do they decrease image quality so much [on 8MP] that they are useless?

the extra angle you will gain will be blurred and make your pictures look even worse

Wide angle converters produce SIGNIFICANT blur at the edges and corners of the photograph, and usually add blur to over 50% of the image.

Frequently their cheap, uncoated glass will also introduce significant chromatic aberration into the picture causing purple/blue fringing around highlights.

If you just want this for vacation photos then go ahead and get whatever you want, but it will significantly reduce the sharpness and overall quality of your pictures.

op again

i just tried to hold the wide converter lens i already have (0.65x) in front of my cam.
result is of course a wider angle but i can see the edges of the lens (because the lens is smaller than it should be for my cam) plus there is strong blur (aberration) and blue/yellow fringing on the edges.
