I've heard rumors /p/
I have heard that some lens are to heavy for the d80 (as well as other bodies)

Would it be safe to buy something such as 70-300mm VR?
Or will it break my camera in half?

d80's not to far off from the d40 in terms of body weight etc
>> Anonymous
my 18-200 vr fits perfectly on the d80 and the 70-300 VR is only a bit heavier, so i think it's fine. it's not going to break anything if you don't drop it

/r/ing hi res version of that pic

70-300mm VR + D80 is fine.
>> Anonymous
the only instance when you could go HMM this feels kind of iffy, is if you mount your camera on a tripod and extend it to the max then it's very front heavy if your tripod isn't solid
>> hopethathelps.
it helps to hold the lens with one hand instead of just the camera

i used my 70-200 2.8 before on a D80, no prob at all with or without tripod..

Don't be retarded. You won't break your camera mounting that lens or any other one made for it unless you go out of your way to destroy it.

I have heard that a 6 foot steel pipe is too heavy for the D80 (as well as other bodies).

Wonder in what context that picture was actually taken. Probably the result of either a stress test or a "let's run our truck over a camera worth $8000+ for shits and giggles!" much like people did with the PS3 when it just came out.

I use a 70-200 f/2.8 VR on my D80 all the time, no problems.

This lens is pretty heavy but I'm not worried about ripping the lens mount off. If you're scared of it, when you're shooting be sure to support both the lens and the camera.

as in my 70-200 f/2.8, the 70-300 is considerably lighter

I'd be a little concerned about putting a heavy lens on any dslr body that didn't have a metal mounting ring built into the body. I think the first Canon rebels were all plastic builds. Not sure about Nikon though. You could put it on (of course) just be careful.

common propaganda or ignorance, those were the $80 Canon Rebel film bodies

no one makes a dslr with a plastic mount

Conclusion: Take care of your fucking gear. Being labeled "Nikon" doesn't exempt your camera from breaking.

If you're going to break a Leica, break it by using it till it dies. Good luck on your mission. Don't go building a house with it though.

20x100 = 2000. This is the 20th century. Your point? Where is it?
>> Anonymous
usualy people who say that the lens is "too heavy for ..." are meaning its not as nicely ballanced due to the light weight of the body, the center of ballance is quite far foward into the lens. just support the lens with you arm and its fine. it wont snap the mount unless you drop it or use as a weapon.

>>282367Where the fuck is the film spool?

CANON! But the zoom lens is cheap. (No red stripe).

Should have used an AE-1. Oops! I forgot that the prior Canons aren't mount compatible with the newer Canon Lenses...

2.8 300 never did anything to my d200.

2.8 400 snapped the connector ring on my d2x.

I didn't hold the lens while I lifted it up to see if the d2x could hold the weight though. Thank god for nps.
