How do I fix my macro shots?

fix in what sense?

I'm not sure. Sometimes they come out great, but more often than not, I wouldn't show them off to my blind neighbor.

Then I suggest taking more that come out great and less that you wouldn't show off to your blind neighbor.

Whoops, meant to post the resized one.

Looks like your using digital zoom.
googling the camera shows you have some crazy 3x enhanced digital zoom goin on, not too familiar with the camera but make sure that option is either off or your not in that zoom range.

Other than that im not 100% sure

That's the intended end result, yes.

Ok, so now that I see the resized one it doesnt look like the zoom issue I was talking about.
No idea whats goin on in your pics without you being a bit more specific about whats wrong with them

Maybe I'm just wanting too much out of something at such close range, but I can never get as much of the subject as I'd like in focus.

Need a narrower aperture. DoF gets narrower the closer you focus your camera and the wider your aperture. Since this sort of photography happens, by definition, close up, your only variable to work with is the aperture.

This will lower the amount of light you're getting into your sensor, so you'll have to lengthen your exposure accordingly or get some more light. E.g., some bright-ass flashes.

My camera only goes as narrow as f/8, but I'll start trying that more often.

Might be enough, given your tiny P&S sensor. If not, you're pretty much screwed.

College student budget is sux. I have an old AE-1P on it's way, though. I don't want to jump into D-SLRs without first learning a little more.

Macro and large DoF don't really go hand in hand.

Not true. I've seen some of the best macro photographers stopping down to the point of sacrificing image quality just to get that DOF.
>> Anonymous
>>114609
You lose image quality with a closed aperture?
>> elf_man !!DdAnyoDMfCe
When it gets narrow enough, diffraction becomes a problem, it starts to lose sharpness. On slr lenses, this is usually anything over f16.

I've got one of those, its a nifty little camera.

My Wide angle lens for my Pentacon goes all the way to F22. I shouldn't use that then or my images won't be sharp?
>> elf_man !!DdAnyoDMfCe
>>114618
Depends on if you need the depth of field. Also depends on the subject, how noticeable it will be. It's going to vary from lens to lens, to some extent, anyways. F16 is just the rule of thumb.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s

You have a hard time understanding?

f8-f11/16 is generally the sweetspot of most lenses before difraction takes over. Check out reviews of the lense to see how it performs, but it will be close to this range.

out at f22+ you are going to get massive difraction.
