this is a lot to ask of /p/ but im interested CONSTRUCTIVE AND POSITIVE C&C and opinons for a good crop for this picture, there are plenty that were exposed better in this set but this was taken when the lights got very dim and it just so happened that this pose was the one the band liked the most. my problem is dealing with the auxiliary percussion and mics strewn about. what does /p/ think is the most aesthetic way to deal with this.

Faggot, we don't know what the fuck you want us to do. Are you asking us to make an artistic decision or just to make the picture look better? What the fuck niggertot.

Your only choice for cropping is to cut one side off, your call. It's not going to make a big difference either way besides for the right side having a bit more attention brought to it by the additional light.

Is it just me or does the angle here make her look like she's missing an arm?
>> Anonymous
Leave the stuff in. I love cluttered stage shots, especially if the stuff is worked into the composition.

Only thing this needs is an exposure boost/fill light, and maybe a little more moderate white balance (even though that's probably how it was).

relax champ i need to crop it
>>opinons for a good crop for this picture

its a simple question i just want a legitimate respose. ill take C&C any day if its constructive.

My problem with this photo is that it's taken at a very high iso, and at a slow shutter speed. the result is a slightly blured face that, when cropped, becomes jpeg artifacted and unpleasent to the eye because of the noise.

It would help a ton if you could get ahold of a 1.4, 1.2, or even 1.0 lens and shoot at 1/30th or higher without being at iso1600. iso400 on a good dsl will net you much more usable images then the one your presenting.

the photo included here has been cropped with additional vingetting added, light leveled, had the woman increased decreased in saturation, moved to a more red hue, and had a lens blur added selectively to the woman and the backround.

I'm sure theres more that could be done with the image, but as I said with the quality of the image presented its difficult to really bring it out because of inherent lacking information present in the womans face.

also, the reason I'm choosing a portrait orientation is because I don't see the rest of the band, I only see equipment. the other members aren't even elements of the photo, only the girl in a very pretty pose. the lighting naturally centers all attention on her, and anything else that draws you away from it is just distraction.

Pulling her out obviously will bring more attention to her, unfortunately also brings attention to how shitty the image quality actually looks. I'd simply disagree with doing this if it was absolutely necessary to use this image in the first place.

on that note it was in fact a 1.4-16 lense i was using but the only one available at the time was an old nikkor macro lense (from the 70s/early 80s i assume) and at such a low F-rating i couldnt get enough in focus so i was still shooting at f4.

check out 2 more shots from that set, the first being a few seconds prior or after to OP when the lighting was a wee bit more favorable and the second showing what heppened when i was somewhere around 1.4/2/2.8 in better lighting.

they went with OP over this pic due to the percussionist not being invisible... how dare he..

well, without completely removing everything else from the photo but her, all I can think to do is what
>>174529
did. I cropped it this way and that several times, and it always came back to removing a little bit of the bottom and right hand side so the singer was more centralized. nothing else really works because she's not in crisp focus, and the harsh light on the equipment to the right hand side makes it hard to have it in the shot without it being a focal point.

so what band is this?

Oh, wow. You need to simply not listen to their judgment or apparent lack-of. This picture is probably a thousand times more usable than the first you posted.

Clutter can be annoying, but work around it.

Also, to get a brighter photo at a gig without using a flash, I tend to work my settings around this base:

500 ISO
F/3.5 (or lower)
1/30 shutter speed
WB: Tungston

Then adjust the settings to get a better exposure.
I personally cant go lower than f/3.5 - so I tend to go to 1/20 shut.spe. and up the iso to 640.
