whats the Sync cable for?

i dunno, camera -> cord -> studio light

or if you don't have one on camera, camera -> flash -> cord -> studio light

So you can attach it to a camera that doesn't have a hot shoe.

Which seems like it would be absurdly unlikely in this day and age, but I found it quite handy when I wanted to use it with my old TLR.

Why is there no lock function on the receiver? Won't it fall off of the tripod?

The receiver has a screw tripod mount on the bottom. If you're putting a little hot shoe on your tripod to mount this in, generally that mount has a screw to lock it in.

Personally, I just attach the receiver with the PC cord and velcro it to the side of the flash. I don't like adding a huge big receiver thing to the height of my flash head.
