sup guys?
im a noob to photography and this board, but you seem like good guys, so i'll go ahead and ask. good lenses for macro shots? like when the subject is less than 2 inches in length? im a jew so i dont own my own camera, but I do timeshare my dad's a700 and his collection of older lenses. he has this fat lens that has a macro setting that i like to dick around with. i dont know enough to describe it more in detail (and theyre at his house right now, so i cant really find out), but basically, it is impossible to shoot anything that is really small. i can post some of my failed attempts to shoot macro shots, but i would really like a recommendation. thanks

>you seem like good guys
Observational powers obviously isn't your strongest point.

Though for a macro lens, you might want to check out the Sigma 105 macro. Though in general, anything that says 1:1 is good, as long as you check reviews first. Just remember that on shorter lenses, you have to get really close to the subject (you know, with your feet) to get the shot, which might scare the mosquitoes or whatever "wildlife" you intend to shoot.

on that second pic, i was lesa than 14inches away from the mosquito, but that is big as i could make it. i want to be able to have a fucking microscope lens, or at least something along those lines...

Then you'd probably want something shorter than 105mm. The clue is 1:1 macro. The shorter the lens, the closer you need to get to achieve said 1:1 magnification. Protip: try a few at the store you're buying.

Ok OP heres the rub, You had an ISO speed of 400

During the day, judging by the specular on those berries you should have had and ISO of 100 or 200. To get the most out of that picture for contrast, instead of 1/500 which has a crap ass focal length you could have extended the length by a good few centimeters. instead of 2.8cm you may have had 5cm or more which makes a lot of difference.

Also sony... a700 for shame

ok, as i said in my first post, i am fucking new to photography. if you want to be really helpful and elaborate in near layman's terms, then i will really appreciate it. if not (as i suspect will be the case), then ill just ignore your post.

He's trolling. If you stick around, you'll get used to it, and to understand when it happens.
