Am I overreacting? Anonymous
I took some photos at a party last week and posted them on [social networking site] for all to enjoy with appropriate watermarks and my name. Nothing distracting, just a statement of ownership.

People have started using them and most left all the photos as is, but one person saw fit to cut my name and watermark out of the picture and use it as their new main image.

Seeing as how everyone bugged me about taking pictures for them and putting them online, and pretty much everyone else was courteous enough to give credit where it was due, I'm pissed. But am I overreacting?

(btw, I selected a nondescript photo on purpose, so don't bother with the whole 'you don't deserve that camera' crap)

DRAMA.

Seriously. You put a watermarks on party photos? I'd understand if it was really a GREAT shot you took effort into...
Also geez, if you have a profil image for a [social networking site], do you want a watermark from another guy on it? Goddamn, dont be a pussy...

What>>176062said.

Although I myself sort of do the same for those kinds of photos. They're usually low resolution, 640x480 at the most, with a small black border with my name/nickname (depending on the crowd it gets shared with) and one of my email addresses (which also depends on the crowd).

After they're released into the wild, fuck them. People can do whatever they want with it, even crop the border off and claim ownership for all I care. I still have the original resolution files and the people in the photos can always ask me for a hi-res (1024 pixels on the long end) jpeg if they ask nicely.

Of course, it's a completely different issue with well thought out and especially set up shots.

I can't stand people who watermark pictures that won't make them money.

But that's just me.

dude get over it...

why the heck did you watermark? if it was for a red carpet event where your company that has a commercial interest then i'd understand.

I've literally had hundreds of photos used for people's profile pics and this and that.

See it as a compliment.

I understand where you're coming from, but there are times to assert your right and there are times to let it go.

Dude. I don't even watermark my best photos of friends. If i's a really good snap, I might say it was me in a comment or get them to give me credit in the caption, but for party snaps?

I kinda know where OP is coming from.
I shoot alot of local gigs and whatnot - totally free of charge. Im not interested in making any money from it at the moment.
I add a small 'watermark' in the corner, because basically I want to get noticed and known within my local area for band photography.

If someone took it out, meaning no harm - I'd still feel abit 'betrayed' if thats the right word.

Pic is an example, no crit on the photo please.

Same for me, but a band shots at a gig and people shots at a party are totally different things.

If it annoys you so much post a comment saying "Hah, yeah I remember taking this photo!" or something.

28-135 on that camera?!?! get good glass for your nice camera! don't use that garbage!

Oh wow...This is kinda relevant to me. I generally get bothered when people post my stuff on [social networking site]...I feel it's kinda bastardizing my work. The use doesn't bother me...it's the fact that people always comment "OMG THIS IS SUCH A GOOD PIC OF YOU," "I LIKE THIS PIC," etc etc.. Anyway, I usually ask people to credit me with a link to my website. If they don't comply, I kick them in the balls the next time I see them in person.

You uploaded it into the collective. Don't act surprised when it propagates.

I'd be honored if people used my pos photos for their non-commercial purposes. Watermarks are for faggots.
