Quick question. I'm flying to LA for a business meeting, and this is the first time I'll be carrying my Pentax K10D. This is my first DSLR, and I was wondering if the metal scanner or any TSA equipment had the potential to harm my DSLR?

Thanks.

None whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend trying to clean it like that too often though.

pentax k10d's weather resistant seals are awesome.

Weather resistant is one thing, water-proof is another.

errr how was that camera after the bath?

Should have been fine if it is weather proof. Of course, you'd rarely want to take the camera and lens in a thunderstorm.

I flew to Hawaii with a film SLR last year and asked since there were irreplaceable picture on there if they could do a hand check. It passes completely around any X-ray equiptment, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same for a digital. Tell them you're worried about the x-rays affecting the flash cards or something if you have to.

Who cares if your camera gets wet.

Totally legit reason to buy a new one!

...cling film is not a good idea though.

it only affects the cards and batteries... take them out and

Xrays apparently can fog film
Microchip ? Film

The higher the sensitivity the more likely that will occur.

Though if you have film you can request a search instead of putting it through the machine.

They will hate you for it though. Usually they glower at me and anyone else requesting that as if we just killed their dog.

as far as film goes, x-rays only affect 800 film

at least, that's what the airplane lady told me

>Metal scanner

You mean a fucking xray machine?

No, no it doesn't.

airplane lady told my White, 17 year old face that my Dax hair wax could be an explosive.

They have metal scanners and xray machines. Don't be such an asshole.

I can believe it. It isn't exactly top level special forces or police they have trained up for airport security.

That's because TSA employees are trash. A lower rank than fast food workers.

OP here; so is the general consensus to just go ahead and request that they search it, rather than have it go through the scanners/x-rays? I really don't want my flash cards to die, or my three extra batteries to crap out, either.

Just flew with my RD-1 and two batteries a couple days ago. No problems here going through scanners. Neither did any of my DSLR toting friends.
