Hiya /p/. Here are some photos i've taken within the last month or so, and wanted to get some C&C on them. I think I like them, but i'm not sure, so want to get some additional input. Thanks!

Ah! Okay. Cool. Any specific suggestions, or just a regular "throw them out" type of thing?

Main criticism would be on>>51328
I think it's too close for those elements, they kind of muddle together and I can't really focus on anything, or tell what the subject is, exactly. Otherwise it almost has an oil-painting look to it that I like.
>>51329
Could be closer, or a slightly different angle. I like the carpet over the people, though.

>>51328
i really like the color in this one

They're too random.

This looks ok compared to the rest, but could've been better if you were closer

The only one I really liked a lot. Really atmospheric, lovely, minimalist sunset.

Strange stuff you posted, I really like the other things on your flickr much more than this.

I posted what I did on purpose, actually. Choose some of my not-so-best photos because I wanted some critiques. People can flame me for doing so if they'd like. I like them, but they aren't the regular "me" photos, you know? Here's a few others I love, that people can rip into too.

More like it! I absolutely loved this picture, I took a liking to it instantly. Like I said, the pastels against that brilliant crimson totally makes it for me.

Okay, so critiques?
>>51328
Boring subject, the only thing remarkable about this image is the lovely saturation, but what else is new with Velvia?
>>51329
Nice rug, but two people standing beneath it doesn't create the sort of novel situation I enjoy in street photography. Boring situation, boring photo.

Thank you :) I know it was odd to post them, but for the life of me I can't get anyone to give me actual point it out criticism.

>>51329
was my first (and likely only) attempt at street photography. it was random, i turned, it was there, i shot, I moved on to a better shot. People aren't my thing, but there was something about the shot I still found to be interesting.

>>51328
was boredom photo. I was in my backyard, the flowers were there, so i arranged them and took a few rolls of still lifes. not a big thing.

>>51409
I really enjoyed this one. Shows the lovely light beams against the darker background, so pretty.

>>51329
My second favorite, only reason it wasnt numbe rone is because the rugs print is so sharp and perfect it looks like it was copy pasted in the picture hee hee. I do really enjoy how its not something you see everyday though. ^_^

>>51328
This was the only one I did not care for in some way, honestly I was not sure what the picture was of.

>>51406
Nice shot of the balloon but the background is so dark and empty feeling.

My humble amateur opinions. ^_^

According to her Flickr profile, it looks like she's had 15 years of practice.

your blue skys are beautiful, polarizing filter?
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>51682

more like 15 years of fumbling around with a camera and getting lucky ;)

>>51680
Self taught.

>>51683
Yup, i love my filter + basics of light (back to the sun, etcetcetc). Once you polarize, there's no need to go back. the deeper skies are addicting. Add in some aperature changes and there's win.
>> elf_man
>>51480
I keep tellin' her she rocks, but noooo, all she says is she's lucky. Hah. Maybe so, but that kind of luck is earned, yeah?
>> slim !yE5LOsLjxQ
O_o

15 years of experience?

I had to do the math to see if i've even been toilet trained for 15 years. (i have.) guess i got a ways to go in my photomological learnings.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>51736

I said i've had a camera in my hand for 15 years. That means i've been taking pictures that long, not experience. I threw away all my photos from before 2001, because they all sucked. I've taken a class in college (my teacher hated me and told me i'd make a horrible and unacceptable photography major) so I went out, did it on my own, and go by instinct. I *DO* get lucky.
>> ac
>>51745
Heh. I can probably claim over 20 years experience going by that, since I have memories of playing around with a crappy little mostly-disposable 110 camera when I was 7... Though, granted, there were years and years in there where I didn't take any pictures at all. I probably have about two years of actual experience worth mentioning.

I was surprised to learn you're a year younger than I am. I was assuming you were much older.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>51748

I suppose that's a good thing, then :)

My dad gave me my first real camera, a Canon a-1 with one lens, 15 years ago. I took it and I shot it until it broke on my very last roll (of moose) In Yellowstone national park. After that, I had a camera I dont' really remember, I think I took more pictures with dad's. Then I upgraded to an n60 and took lots of pictures on trips with dad and in my backyard, then sports photos for the newspaper in college. Then that broke and I upgraded to my current n80. I am looking to upgrade to a new (film) camera again right now.

Photography has always been a huge, huge part of my life and in my family. To be honest, my earlier pictures that I was really proud of at the time really suck now that I look back at them, but i've grown into my own. Without that experience and those encounters, though, I wouldn't be where I am, and where I finally arrived to an acceptable (in my opinion) level in 2000. If you count just that, i've 7 years of experience, then.

I bought my first camera, a little Kodak DC3200, in about 2000 basically so I could take pictures of Hot Chicks in college. The available creative controls were "Use the flash/Don't use the flash/maybe use the flash" and "take the picture/don't take the picture". When I got a Real Job and upgraded to a PowerShot A95 (which had lots of manual controls) I knew basically nothing about photography, but I was very excited about having control over my aperture setting (even though I had no real idea what that meant). So I started buying a crapload of books about photography at the various local library book sales and edumacated myself. Most of my early shots that I was proud of at the time are really lame (flower macros, sunsets, etc), but I still quite like a few of 'em (pic related).

Cool shot. I think the earliest photo that I have that I still like (for all those years, I shot print film. I may still have the negatives around somewhere, but I mostly just threw the prints away). I think mom also has some of my first photos in a photo album somewhere. My first "enlargement" photo that I have with me is my hummingbird froma round 1999/2000 I think. Pic related. There was one before that, that made it into 3 competitions even though it was framed upside down was the Macro of the shells I posted a while ago. I don't have it online to post anymore, tbh. It's at home somewhere. I always had an artistic eye for pictures, I just never had the proper equipment or knowledge to take them until 00.

"I've taken a class in college (my teacher hated me and told me i'd make a horrible and unacceptable photography major)"

Jealousy is an ugly thing indeeed.... I think you just fine even if you are just lucky.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>51813

She was a sucky photographer anyway, but still. I don't exactly fit in with the normal camera crowd very well. Me posting my work/my flickr here, though, and if you've looked at it should explain why I loved the red leaf on the blue fountain/water shot so much :D You should get one up as well if you get the chance.
>> elf_man
It's like with any bad art teacher, they're going to force you into their basic conception of art for the sake of the class, nevermind actually promoting creativity.

To Liska: Damn. Sorry I have to say the 3rd one of the first four pictures was the only one that caught my eye. Are they flower petals or something? As for your other pictures, I really enjoyed the branches one, looks like a painting.
To SophiaLee: I was looking at your DA page, many of the pictures are so crisp, hotness.

As for the conversation you were having before, I have absolutely no idea what you were talking about x_X I just point and shoot when I see something that interests me.
>> Choamsky
Some nice shots. The EXIF is broken though, or at least with my browser. What camera/lens are you using?
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>51932

Thanks dude. There is no EXIF. It's all slide film- Fuji Velvia and Fuji Provia 100 speed and 50 speed. Everything was shot with a Nikon N80.

>>51931
What particular conversation were you reffering to? Maybe I can help specify :) Also, yes, they were flower petals. I was having a bit of fun in my backyard because I felt compelled to photograph something, but didn't want to go out (the sun was doing down) I can get a farther out version of them if you're curious to see.

Thank you, too, for the feedback!
