2nd day I've had this camera, but the first time I've been able to actually use it. Newfag at photography so any comments/critiques would be nice. Only played with lighting techniques, and also can't do shit in photoshop except crop and resize. So any advice on that would be awesome as well.

1st pic: do like, somewhat overexposed. This means too much light is getting into the picture. You can tell when you see too much white area.
2nd: yawn
3rd: Nice, nothing amazing but nothing inherently wrong with it as far as I can describe.
4: Also overexposed. Also, try not to take pictures from eye-level, and make the subject take up as much of the frame as possible, without other objects.
5. Next time leave out the pole and the tree on the left, and the wires. All these things are distracting and obstructing.

is it a bad thing to over and under expose a picture? I mainly took like 4-5 pictures of the same subject just messing around with the light, so I'm still new at it.

For the most part, yes. Check your manual on how to get your camera to meter properly, or look for a guide via Google.

Oh, I've just been doing everything manually.

Yes but in manual mode there should be a light meter telling you how exposed the picture is.
If you have a crappier camera with no manual mode and it just has "brighter" and "darker" and such then your just going to have to eyeball it.
Most, even crappy cameras have a meter that tells you how exposed the picture will come out.

how do you like the K100D? I'm thinking of getting one for my father, (well, a K100D Super... unless there's a major price difference) but I don't know how it'd fit in his hand.

This is from the first day I had the camera, before I switched to a sharper JPEG default. I took this camera halfway across the country and was very pleased. Unlimited JPEGS at 3 frames per second made dealing with moving subjects easier. My only problem has been trying to autofocus in the dark. I'm used to manual focus, though, so I'm still happy (and I bring a flashlight outdoors to do my nighttime photography).

I'll add some spider pics when I get a chance. (I *really* need a macro lens!)

(Oh, and I was aware of the "imperfections" of the subject before I shot. I thought that flaws added character... that and I sold my car a few months ago and didn't have much in my yard.)

Good exposure and a crisp image. A good first day shot. Very pretty subject, even with the flaws from the insects. My new wallpaper.

Holy shit, chap.

ISO rating 1600? Shooting against the sun? No no no no! ISO is the sensitivity rating of the sensor. Higher ISO will result in faster exposures, but will introduce a quality-deteriorating noise to the image. The more ISO, the more noise. Use ISO to get better shots in low light, when a tripod isn't available. In sunny weather, keep it at 100. You really don't need a shutter speed of 1/2000 for floral photography. And even with a shutter speed that fast, you've overexposed the shot a little. Try not to create too many highlights (burnt-out white) on your pix. Precious detail gets lost.

For floral photography, get a macro lens and a water sprayer, tho. Focus in tight on the prettiest flower you can find, throw the background out of focus (but keep a stem, to give it an anchoring point), spray water on the petals to simulate dew droplets and shoot.
