i would actually like this photo in its current state if it were hanging so that the horizon was level.

i've thought about taking pictures at retarded angles like this and hanging them over the stairs or under an inward-angled ceiling so that the framing matches the angle of the nearest home construct.

is this an original idea at all?

Seconded. It's just that it's overused by photogs who want to "be creative" and their first thought is, "Hey! Raked camera angle! I'm a genius!"

Used sparingly, and with appropriate framing, it can be very effective.
