Hell no.
Not only did you kinda mess up the b/w conversion... but the blur looks really really fake. Weird edges and no noise in the blur but noise on the person.
Also, why is his armpit glowing in the edit?
>> Anonymous
What tips do you suggest for when I do the b/w?
The noise was brought out by the conversion. Any idea how to get rid of it w/o buying noise ninja/etc.?
What edges are wierd and messed up looking?
His armpit look like it is glowing to me.

All the edges have the same clean 'feather' fade going on. I noticed it right away... Try to remove the background with a brush instead.. then blur the actual bg and add fake noise.
For b/w conversion try channel mixer then monochrome.. I think it could look a lot more dramatic with the right tweaks.

Just to clarify on the noise... it's actually fine, you just need some consistency in the whole image. If he has noise then the bg must have it too.

It basically went like this
open
select him
inverse
feather 3pxl
blur the background
darken the background
select him
desaturate
mess with contrast using levels
selct back of his head hair
brighten
select background
desaturate

the darkroom was much more fun.

While I never worked with color prints, doing black and white was really fun.
I must concede though I prefer PS because I can always go back and reedit for free and not wsste anything
