I've been using my mom's S5-IS while I save for a DSLR. It's pretty nice, but the fact that it uses AA's is a pain in the ass. Same goes for the little flap that contains the batteries and SD card. That said, it has a 12x zoom which is pretty nice. It's a nice camera, but a DSLR will definitely beat it (with the right lens).
