Took this in the Tonto National Forest just northeast of Phoenix.

Got up at 3am and drove for a few hours to get to this spot.

You woke up early and drove for hours to get the same image I could make on photoshop in 3 minutes?

Umm, OP... I think something went wrong.

I've got an ass load of desert pics from my recent vacation, I may bump this to hell with them when i get them digitized.

that poor wasted gas ;_;

Son, when I started shooting, I wasted 10 rolls of Kodak gold on this shit before I realized that they make for boring shots.

Live and learn.

ended up taking me about 12 minutes from start to save.
i found myself working to hard on the gradient, though now that i look at it i see its much darker at the top.
the cliffs or whatever i spent no time on because if you want to make those look good time is needed and this was going to be a rush job.....

To clarify all this, OP, the scene probably was good, your composition looks like it would've been fine, but something went wrong and there is absolutely nothing in the cliffs except black, and your sky looks fake. Probably not your fault unless you royally messed up the exposure and tried to fix it in processing, but it just doesn't work.

hahha.. I actually thought it was an actual image from a camera until I put them side by side and saw that its obviously painted in photoshop
