So this was my first time doing any sort of portrait photography with a backdrop I used two incandescent lamps with paper taped behind them.

I'm wanting to get better, what are some mistakes I made, things I could do better?

nice lighting- i like,. Most outward thing that I can say right now is that please be careful when you shoot and you don't have a limb in the shot (in this case, her left arm looks like it's missing). The perspective also looks slightly off.

OP: Work on composition, highlight control, and making the light look less flat, especially on that last one with>>214705.

If a limb isn't in the photo, is this a bad thing?

Actually, she owns a black DS with a R4 cartridge +2gb's of ROMS, :P and plays that shit all the time. We used my white one simply for contrast.

I'm not entirely sure, but what focal length were these shot at? It seems a bit low, and the model would likely benefit from some compression.

Only if it looks like the limb is amputated ;)

Focal length ranged from 6-10mm. P&S for the win? :[

You're correct, I sent them through a batch file-resizing program.

Here is a full res with EXIF

Two flash reflections in her eyes dont look that good.
>> Anonymous
It was even worse than flashes I'm afraid. I used two house lamps with paper reflectors behind them. What's the general desired eye reflection?

Hmm, thanks! I didn't want to make the face look to shopped (Without pores) But that is a good subtle edit you did there. I like.

Dear OP,

you are terrible at lighting a subject. I'm not kidding, you're terrible at it.

Thanks,

Getting even a cheap DSLR will help tremendously. If possible, look for a K100D Super, Rebel XT, D50, or D70s used.

Go to the library and find some books on lighting techniques and portraiture. Practice!

These three are just examples, but in general: The shadows are way too harsh. The lighting needs to have some level of shadow to give depth, but a lot of these these have outright black spots.

Now you're just crazy. Even I, a huge proponent of waxing, don't have a problem with her.

There's nothing wrong with downy, pigmentless hair. It's the thicker, pigmented hair that must be waxed/lasered away. At least, for me to be happy that is.

If you're more anti-hair than I am, whoa.
