The greenish color cast is from the print itself, compounded by the shittiness of my scanner. I'll get a proper scanner one day. .

Yeah, especially the ones on slides. I had to re-shoot them against a blank wall to get them digitized (since i have no film scanner). The slides themselves thankfully are not this soft.

Really, they're not that bad. It's probably just DC or Rad trying to spread their USM propaganda. A softer look is very positive for portraiture.

>A softer look is very positive for portraiture.
No, its not. Soft portraits look worse than bad.

Even soviet cameras produce sharper images than these.

However OP didnt scan these so i guess its good enough explanation why these are not sharp.

Personally, I like everything tack sharp to begin with, that's what gaussian overlay is for anyway. Matter of taste. Pic unrelated-my film lenses are very unsharp wide open, but they do have a pleasing quality in the presence of bokeh.
Both CN400 and Sensia are very sharp to begin with, and the weakest link here is unfortunately my method of digitizing media-it doesn't do it justice.

Indeed I did - but the EXIF fails to indicate that it's the four wheel drive, fuel injected PSC 1510xi version (if you're not familiar with BMW nomenclature). It does the job most of the time.

I saw these yesterday, but wasn't really moved to comment. However, I'll try to whip up a little critique now since I have the time and I haven't really looked at anything since DC's last photo thread...

>>215890
Can't beat the smooth, full-frame look of film... Sharp shit, nice choice of focal point. However, how about getting whatever's in your model's face out of the way. I know it's hidden in borkeh, but you can still tell something's in the way and it's distracting. Composition's solid in this, nice job.

>>215891
Different pose, lighting's interesting and I think it really helps her skin look smooth and creamy. Not bad. I really don't have much to say about this one.

>>215893
I dig. Solid composition, this kinda look works for this shot. Exposure's nearly perfect, just need to hide the blacks under that table a little better. Oh, and the window slats on the bottom right are a little wider open than the rest. Shame you didn't catch that.

>>215894
First thing I noticed was the bokeh, normally not the type I usually like (outside of the circle's a little too heavy, too much detail, doesn't seem very creamy) but it works for this shot. The softer image isn't too bad, but it'd be better sharper in my opinion. Good place for a soft spot filter maybe? Oh, but then your bokeh might be off. Overhead lighting's a little harsh, but I know there's not much you can do to fix that.

>>215895
Insects, crustaceans, etc. all look better when they're sharp as fuck. Now's not the time to be dropping down to f1.2.
>> Anonymous
(con't)
>>215896
I dig the colors. Great example of making a boring subject interesting, something /p/ needs to learn. For some reason, my eye hangs around the upper left of this photo a lot instead of where you want us to be. Try to fix that composition or maybe shift your focal point to the long leaves cutting across the frame instead of the ones poking at us.

>>215897
Cute, nice composition, thirds are working for you. Maybe try getting a little closer next time though and clipping out some of that xbox hueg overhead of boring greenery. Now this is more personal so you might not like it as much (but it's worth a shot anyway): Go for more of a portrait look with this one. Get in closer, keep her holding that jar nice and close to her face, bump up the aperture for sharpness, and let's see her flash us a cute smile and look up at the camera with those eyes! Keep her head tilted as it is, as if she just looked up and said, "Oh, hai hubby. Look what I have," and preserve some of that candid feel to it. Now that would make this a great shot.

>>215898
Great composition with this one. My only complaint is that you didn't bump up your aperture and get more DoF. I would've liked her face in focus. Also, insane cro-mabs.

>>215899
Again, great composition! Again, awful softness! Lol, I just don't like how soft these are coming out. Looks like focusing issues. Do you have a prism focus-assist screen?
>> Anonymous
(con't)
>>215917
Cute, but would be cuter with more expression. Here's an idea: Shoot her from straight on, get closer to her so there's less background, and have her pose again with that berry up to her lips. Have her puff out her cheeks and maybe cross her eyes, it'd be a cute goofy look. Since it's your waifu, you can get away with all sorts of goofy and off the wall model direction without feeling uncomfortable. It'll take your semi-snapshots of a fun day off and turn them into something that stays on the mantle for years.

Oh, I see. So you took pictures of pictures, lol. That sucks... I'd like to see the real things, but oh well. If the softness is caused by that, then disregard my comments about focusing issues and such. Nice stuff, I like the occasional filmfag photo thread, it takes my mind off of technical issues with the photography pulled from exif and focus more on issues with composition, balance, etc. What country to you live in?

Actually, that was at f/4-5.6! No way I could have gotten such a huge aperture in broad daylight, I was without a neutral density (which i usually permanently attached to my lens) filter. The thing is, I really really need to get a film scanner.

Absolutely right. I don't show enough of the subject in this one, I could have stopped down one or two to get those leaves in focus too.
