Good Buys? Op
Nikkor 50 1.2. I just bought it today, 400$ was such a steal for this lens. It's going to really be great for taking my night photography to the next level. I was so limited by my previous fastest lens. I'm really enjoying it overall though.
Any good buys lately for any of you guys?

nice score.

Yeah, I was really surprised. Let's just say I did everything short of prostitution to get this lens before someone else snatched it up. I'll post up some night stuff later in the week, too tired to go out right now.

Come on guys, nothing cool found lately? If any of you guys are in the Monterrey, CA area, or the East Bay, check out Camera West. Where I got the killer deal, good people too. Just helping you bay area people out.

is it like this one?

where from, online or IRL?

im jealous. wish i could get one. how'd you get it so cheap?

Really just luck man. They're god awful expensive to find. Luckily the nice nikon stuff really isn't their forte. They're more interested in getting the Leica's and the Hasselblad's off the shelf. They also have an ebay account, check it every once in a while. It's just Camera West Monterrey, I believe. It also can't hurt that the guys who run the store are pretty cool with you. They've got a really top notch shop, definitely had a loyalist out of me. They opened up a shop in my home town very recently, but I was traveling down to Monterrey ( about a 2 hour drive) because of our serious lack of quality photo shops here.

Got inspired and took a shot of some pizza. God, the bokeh is better than the pizza.

Yes sir, exact lens. Good luck finding them, they're really hard to come by. If you can, snatch it asap. It came in, and within like 3 days, all of which I wandered in to make sure it hadn't sold, I bought it. Things go fast. You wont regret it, even if you purchase it for that amount of money. Check out their eBay site, they have deals on everything. Really top quality used stuff too, there's no way I'd go through anyone else. Not worth the hassle.

As I said in another thread, a rebranded 20mm Tokina 2.8.

Got it for $90 and it seems to work ok, so I guess it was a good deal.

i'm kind of wary of purchasing new lenses for my d40x since it's widely hated here and it's an entry level SLR. . but these lenses should be compatible with all of Nikons dSLR's right? it'd be a shame to invest in new glass that wouldnt work with a better camera i might get later on. i'm a poor college student and can't shell out thousands for top notch gear. anyone else have this dilemma?

any nikkor lens (or F mount for that fact) will mount on any current and future Nikon body. Thus you can buy new or used glass now and not need to worry if the next Nikon body you may buy in the future will mount these lenses.

Actually $400 is pretty common price for the 50mm f1.2.
the 58mm f1.2 on the other hand... that would be a steal!

I traded my Sigma 15mm f2.8 fisheye for the Sigma 8mm f3.5 fisheye straight up. That was a good deal price wise. But nothing to brag about, the 8mm is fun though.

I picked up 50/1.4 and 28/3.5 Super Takumars and a 200/4 SMC Takumar about a week back, they're pretty fun.
>> Anonymous
Picked up a 28-70 f/3.3~4.5D the other day for 10bux. Surprisingly nice.

Ah, good thread.
>>239913
Everywhere I've seen one otherwise has been around 499++. I've never seen it drop below that price point. But nevertheless, good stuff. It's been a real treat.

it will work manually, there's no metering either
>> Anonymous
>>239854
That's not entirely true. Pre-AI lenses can't be mounted safely on most newer bodies without conversion. D40/D40x/D60 can mount pretty much anything though. See http://www.bythom.com/lensacronyms.htm

somewhat related, how is the 50/1.8 ?
>> Anonymous
>>240112

not related at all.. fuck off to google.

Lol. Yeah...Google it. I'm not sure any of us even have experience with it. I can tell you it's cheap? Go read about it.

>>239758
I got the 1.8 AF version a couple weeks ago for $25

>>240112
For $25 it's definitely win. Just like most of the reviews say, it's soft wide open and sharp around F4
>> Anonymous
>>240123

link to nikkor af 50mm f/1.8 D for $25
>> sncst
>>239854
that is not true. There are compatibility issues with at least a dozen Nikon lenses, when used with SOME Nikon cameras. One that comes to mind immediately is the Nikor 21mm, f/4 O. Some of the fish eyes have problems and there is a handfull of others

I bought it used off craigslist.
