Soup, /p/.

I'm gonna go to a couple car shows this upcoming week, and I was wondering if any of you had some photography tips when photographing cars. I shoot a PowerShot S3IS (Nothing too fancy, but it gets the job done). One show will be inside a convention center, and another inside a parking garage/ outside.

Last time I took some photos at a carshow inside a building, I could never decide whether to use the flash or not, and there always seems to be a bunch of noise/blur. Also, I don't have a tripod, should I invest in one?

tl;dr Teach a noob how to photograph a car.

S3 fails for not having a hotshoe.

You can't avoid noise in a toy camera and you will look like a tool with a tripod.

Go lowest ISO possible and get some external flash.

Your camera has IS, no need for tripod.
Use ISO to compensate the lightning condition.
Start with the lowest ISO, then depending how steady your hands are...adjust accordingly.

Read his post:
>there always seems to be a bunch of noise/blur
Obviously he can't handhold at acceptable ISO. And you can get a cheap tripod, which would be fine for this sort of work, for like $20. So why not?

If OP took that photo, looks acceptable to me.
With a tripod in a convention center, there's bound to be a lot of hassle moving from cars to cars.
I've been to one last year, TONS of people, going again in Feb!
