Dear /p/,

An owner of a tropical fish store has asked me to take photos of every tropical fish he sells so he can put the pics on his store's site. There's roughly 200 different species of fish. I'd like to know how much I should ask for as this my first photo job. I'm sure that I should charge per shot, but what about the price ?

Thanks for the help everyone, I'll ask the guy what he would be willing to pay.

Are you going to photograph his expensive tropical fish dead and on a plate? That would be awesome.

23:52 No.177289 is on the money mate. If your just starting, work out a fair price to charge your customer by the hour and the number of fish per hour you can shoot, PRESTO.. your figure..
take in mind you can not expect the customer to pay for your learning experience. A lower rate will possibly gennerate more buss rather than charging pro rate and delivering sub standard product.

Charge pro rate if you can deliver pro quality, i suppose?

You could of course shoot couple of fish for free, and when you get some idea of the amount of work involved, and he get's the idea of the quality, you'll have some grounds to work the deal from.

**Use the free photos like... fish... bait.. Agh! Couldn't resist. :(

Serious post:

Ask him what his budget is, and then work up/down from that.
Make it around $5-10 for a final photo. + callout fee. :D

Dude has lots of fresh fish rite? Tell him you want him to make you some fucking awesomely fresh sushi. Like, where you watch him kill the fish and then 5 minutes later you're eating it.

Then take pictures of all of it.

That would be fucking epic.

Hes not going to sell the rights to the photos. Only idiot would do that. He sells rights for the store to use those images for their commercials.

That being said hes still free to use those fish photos as part of his portfolio.

Learn to not be a douche AND a dumbass at the same time. The second post employed the singular form for the sake of the general equation.

The plural is actually correct here, my double dutch douche/dumbass poster. If you're going to troll with myopically corrected typos, at least be correct.
