D80 old lens question Anonymous
When they say the D80 doesn't meter with old lenses, does that mean I can't use the automatic modes like A or S because the camera can't figure out what shutter speed or aperture it should use for whatever initial setting I choose first?

Fuck, submitted. And how can I tell from the lens name it won't meter? Is it Ai or something like that?

If it doesn't autofocus, It won't meter is a good rule (Except with a few (p) lenses)

Ai, and Ai-s and NAi will not meter, (Nai will damage your camera too)

What>>193249applies only to the mid-level of Nikons. The D40/s, and D60 can't autofocus with plain AF lenses but it can meter with them. Simply put, Ai and below lenses can only meter on D200 and up cameras.

So anything with AF in the name and I'm good?

Wait, what? Is that the same with my D80 except I can meter AND autofocus?

And also, no one confirmed yet, metering means the camera can't calculate the shutter speed and aperture for A and S modes, right?

Yes.
