Hey p, looking for a little advice on what to buy next. Just got a Pentax K10d with the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens with a 4 gb memory card. I'm trying to figure out which lens to get next, almost certainly going to be a prime. Was looking at the FA 31mm f/1.8 limited, any other suggestions?

Also want a wireless release that supports bulb mode, as far as I can tell that means a third party manufacturer. Any specific model suggestions?

No, I'm not going to sell it and buy a Canon/Nikon/Sony, I've made my decision for Pentax and I'm not gonna fall back on it so readily.

Wow, nevermind on the FA 31mm. Didn't check on the price until just now, more than the camera itself. Hoping for something under $300.00, leaning towards a wide angle one.

31mm and 1.8, what did you expect?

And unless you get some old, used one, you won't find a WA or UWA for less than $300.

Breaking news, lenses cost a lot of money!

If you need an ultra fast portrait lens, Buy This! Pentax SMCP-FA 50mm f/1.4 Lens for about $200.00

Tamron adaptall 28mm
It's like $20 seriously. It's not amazingly sharp wide open, no CRC either, but it's got a great almost polarizing coating on it.
If you want bricks to be shat, get the 135mm BBAR MC. Again, like $20-40.

Hhmmm shouldn't be difficult to get a KA adapter for it with what I've looked up so far, seems very promising. Thanks for the suggestion!

YAY PENTAX USERS!!!!

I'm planning on getting the Sigma 10-20.
I didn't want to spend that much on a lens right away, but the reviews are incredible and I love the pictures people take with it.

PS: Huge sale on HDSC memory cards from Sandisk right now. Definitely worth it for a Pentax user. I ended up getting 2 4gb cards. I almost got 3, but for most of my shooting 2x4gb seems like more than enough.

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=791220

Beach Camera and Adorama through Amazon.com have the Sandisk 4gb SDHC Extreme III memory cards (Min 20MB/second sequential read and write) for $44 - $30 rebate = $14 with free shipping. There is a $30 to $110 tiered rebate [fillable form] depending on how many you buy. Buy 2 to get $70 rebate making it $9 each or buy 3 for $110 rebate making it $7 each.

FA 50mm f/1.4 is only $200 and has awesome sharpness and bokeh...probably a better deal than any of those fancy-schmancy Limiteds

The wireless remote F works like a charm and is first-party.

If I understood correctly (I may not have) the remote F only supports up to 30 second exposure, not bulb mode. Am I mistaken?

Holy hell awesome deal on those cards, think I'll pick up 2 or 3 for less than I paid for the ultra 2 at a retail store.

True, if you want bulb mode, you'll have to get a third party wired remote, I don't think any wireless ones support it.

Or you could make your own!

I've found several third party wireless remotes that support bulb, just wanted confirmation that no first party ones support it.
>>159100
You sure? A quick search shows the only remotes for Nikon in bulb mode are third party as well.

With Canons, if you have the wireless remote and put your camera in bulb mode, pressing the button opens the shutter and it doesn't close until you press again. I assume it's the same way with Nikons.

you have to press and hold it

if you want to do 30 minute exposure, you're holding it for 30 minutes

You can get third party with electronic timers or you can get them with a little plastic slider that holds it for you. Even the cheapest of them I have seen have that.

no doubt

but our point was, nikon and canon's own remotes can do bulb

Long exposures = surefire way of burning up your sensor

enjoy your dead camera

Never heard anything about that, seems like an unlikely event.
