I posted a rather bland picture of some shitty sign in Alexanderplatz, Berlin a few days ago.

Here's a bit of a cityscape I suppose. It's square. Yes. Inb4artfag.

50mm/1.8, Fuji Superia 400, you get the idea.

I'm worried that it's rather boring. Any suggestions?

OP here, is that horizion just a little crooked or is that just me?
Dammit.
I'm not sure. Either way, carry on, please.

The railroad seems to lead my eyes out of the frame. Pretty cool shot though. And yeah, horizon does look a bit tilted. Nobody's perfect.

I think this shot looks a lot better in black and white. I also cropped out a lot of the completely blown out sky as it adds nothing : /. I wouldn't worry about it being boring though OP. It's a neat little shot. The S is very appealing.

Ah yes. I was worried about cropping out the sky 'cause it would give the picture a strange aspect ratio, but I see that that doesn't really matter.

Thanks for the input so far /p/

*sigh*... Amerifag here. Completely OT, but damn that makes me nostalgic... I've been to Berlin a bunch of times (twice recently) and that color pic of yours just makes me all 'verklemmt'. >:3 Out of curiosity, were you up in the Fehrnseturm when you took it? I got some nice 360-degree shots when I was up in it a couple years ago, but nothing as nice as yours.

tl;dr - I miss Berlin....

Actually, no! The line was ridiculously long. I was on top of the Park Inn, where I was staying.

Also, better crop?

Just to trip your nostalgia a little more ;)
(I know it's not a great picture though, it's probably rather boring to people who haven't been there.

Its supposed to lead your eyes out.

I like it a good deal. It's a little boring, shooting at a busier time with better light would fix that. A better film would actually help, too. Isn't Superia Fuji's consumer brand? It just looks a little flat. Doesn't take away from the shot, but it could be made better.

But overall, it's very good, this is what a landscape is about, not just pointing the camera in the direction of a Spring field. Lots of people think of land/cityscapes for some reason as just being shots of pretty or at best interesting scenes, maybe just some due to some pathological misreading of Ansel Adams's work.

Also, this is a perfect riposte to the idea an ultrawide is somehow essential for landscapes.

Yes, but barely. It's actually an interesting photo for the most part. But only because I've never seen that location before.

Wow, thanks!
I shot Superia because I generally don't shoot color as much (I usually shoot Tri-x) and I didn't expect to get anything nice from color, but I was still trying.

Plus, it's super cheap, which is good for beginners.

- pump up the saturation to +40

- bump up contrast to +10

- apply a massive amount of lens blur to the top and the bottom of the pic to simulate shallow DOF of a macro lens (experiment here)

Now you have a pic of a boring cityscape, but it looks like a photo of a miniature model of the city and is marginally more interesting.

oh wow next time stop down your lens more.
