It would be better if the base of the trees in the foreground weren't cut off. I feel like the ground needs to be in the pic.

i would generally agree and might make that adjustment but my teacher has decided " the entire frame needs to be interesting" and so ive done this. i dont know im just trying to please her so i can get back on schedule.

FYI the assignment we are doing is big pictures where we crop them down to 8x6 then do this enlarging thing till it gets to 24x32 then we print it out on these something by 18 sheets of paper and have to cut like squares or something out of the picture then piece it all back together...

what's the point of that assignment? And as far as making the entire frame "interesting" goes, that's what the Rule of 3rds is supposed to accomplish.

i dont know, cutting up the picture just fucks it up in my opinion.

rule of thirds leaves some negative space though so i pretty just did a kind of rule of thirdsy thing with a bunch of extra bull shit.

im not sure if i really like the picture its ok but im sure the longer i look at it the more im going to hate it

Well, the negative space could possibly be filled with something else that contrasts against the main subject. It could even be busy. I took a pic recently that had a good rule of 3rds with a really busy negative space and it worked well because of the contrast. Gave it a three-dimensionality.

It only exists on film at this time, and my prof has it for grading. When I get it back later this week, I'll get it scanned in to show, I think it looks cool. It's an architectural thing; some ductwork and vents with a bunch of support struts everywhere.
