cheap DSLR cameras? Anonymous
I've heard about the Nikon D40, but I'm looking for a DSLR or equivalent quality camera for less than $1000 (US). Any suggestions? I can go for body only, there are some lenses around my house for an older 35mm.

Pic related, it's a DSLR. By the way, Sony is a bonus for me. I have consistently good performance from Sony products.

Nikon D80 on clearance for $749 or Canon XTi on clearance for $549 (Ritz prices, you might be able to find even lower elsewhere).

If you want to get a body only you need to tell us what lenses you have laying around from your old 35mm

Just buy any of them. They all have strengths and weaknesses that balance each other out.

Actually, I have the E-510 with those 2 lenses, a manual Zuiko 50mm with reverse mount for macro, 2 extra batteries, and a hard aluminum that I'm selling for $550. It's a great camera and the kit lenses are some of the better kit lenses available.

I was presented with an opportunity to get into a 5D for real cheap so I'm selling my Olympus set up. If OP is interested let me know.
