haha. I forgot to mention my price range.
Photography is just a hobby for me, so I'm looking to spend anywhere from $600-1100
>> Anonymous
you should save up for the D300

full frame, 51 AF points and only $1500

hmm

considering winter is soon, and I wont have any worthwhile sports to shoot until the spring, that should be doable.

Thanks anon

If you're shooting sports, and it's mostly daylight work, you may want to trade a bit of high-ISO performance for speed and go for a nice used D2X. They've become quite affordable (I got mine for $1500 in near-new condition last summer, and they've continued falling), and the AF and battery life are awesome, less points than the 300, but blazing fast, and I personally find that the 12pt AF lets me switch to follow action as it changes much more effectively than the 51pt. Don't bother with a D2Xs, by the way, the only thing it offers is the viewfinder matte while in high-speed crop and a slightly better screen in terms of viewing angles (from head on, it's exactly the same), all the other Xs features were added to the D2X with the firmware 2.0 update.

I love mine, the only problem is the noise at very high ISOs, and that would require upgrading to a D3 to really solve. D2s isn't that terrible, either, especially if you're not looking at it from a noise critique perspective. I shot this one at 3200.

NOOOOO D300 is not fullframe you fucking troll! Don't listen, op!

With full frame though the OPs lens catalogue might be void. FF is only handy if you can afford to reshuffle your lens collection too.

DX works on full frame

nothing wrong with 6 MP, his D50 actually is 6 MP anyway

stick with the D50?

seriously what can't it do? with only 6mp it has great dynamic range, good iso 1600.

if you really need a step up;sell the D50 and get a used D80. net loss ~$300 no point moving out of the hobby range unless you are taking photography further than 'hobby'.

So what, is this misinformation copypasta now? This is the second time I've seen it posted...

Buy more lenses or external flash's
As for camera body upgrade, D90 or D300 only
The D80 or D200 will be a step down in High ISO quality

dynamic range too i'm afraid. seriously OP the D50 is a great camera, just keep using it until the shutter dies then tell me how many actuations it had done.

Also, anyone ever had a DSLR shutter die? how many actuations were you at?

36,000 on my D50 currently, still going, Had to replace the flash circuitry at 20,000. Was covered by warranty.

My D50 has been pretty abused as far as dust goes, After the MX track days it used to look brown from all the dust.

Excellent news, thanks alot. Was the problem from over use of the onboard flash? or external flash or what?

May you get many more tens of thousands of shots from it kind sir.

actually it had to to with the metering, more than anything else.
My camera started overexposing or seriously underexposing random pictures. I sent it in assuming the shutter was sticking, but they said it was the flash circuitry which also controls the metering.

I don't use the D50 much anymore but I still keep it around, I take it out to clubs and whatnot, and rig it up for high flash sync for midday sports where I need the high Shutter speeds.

Why not? It's not like these daily repeated threads will be any the worse off for it.

I have money to blow, and I haven't spent money on photography in a while.

oh, and next season I will hopefully be taking photos for the CXBL paintball series, and hopefully I can make some money off of that.
