If you don't have the camera yet, I suggest you postpone the grip's purchase and later see if you need it.

As for myself, I haven't found myself needing one for my XTi, even though I originally contemplated buying one.

I haven't had a chance to play with a grip on mine though, so I don't know what/if Im missing.

It really depends on if it fits your shooting style and feels right to you. If not, no sweat. If so, they can be great.

Me, I hate using cameras without 'em.

Battery grip is useful if
a) you shoot a lot in portrait orientation (make sure that the grip doubles all necessary buttons and wheels, not just the shutter release);
b) you need to shoot hundreds of shots a day and have no time to change batteries;
c) you want to use AA batteries (if the grip supports them and the camera doesn't)

If you own a D300, get the grip.

Unlike every other grip out there (afaik, I don't know much) it increaes your frame rate. By up to 2.

2!

I consider my battery grip to be one of the best accessories I've got for my camera. Not only does it increase battery time, but it also makes the camera feel much better while holding, and it greatly improves portrait photographing.

Are there any grips for a D70 (not D70s) that autofocuses when half-pressing the shutter?
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
I wish i had a VG, the A100 doesnt have a factory one.

Spending 3hrs taking portrait styles with a massive flash on is not fun, my nose has a mark from where it rests...

If you have larger than normal hands a VG will also give you more room to play with.

Have you tried looking for third party ones? Some of them seem pretty good.

I love my grip. It gives me a much better hold on my camera and saves me having to carry it by the strap. Plus it's a motor drive.
