a Circular Polariser? yea i used one, but in most cases the reflections just wouldnt go away.

Not to be condescending or anything, but you did rotate it, right? ;)

I know, I know, the reflections don't always completely disappear, but they typically diminish greatly.

The simplest way to explain the science is that ordinary light is coming at you in two waves, one waveform horizontal, the other vertical. A polarising lens, or piece of plastic from a calculator, blocks one or the other depending on its orientation.

There are the odd waveforms though that could be in any diagonal orientation, so the polarising lens doesn't always work 100%, but it usually does a decent job.

A circular polariser works on the same principle as the thin sheet of polarising plastic on the faces of pocket calculators, but the plastic polarising the LCD screen has the advantage that the waveform passing through is generated in only two basic orientations, horizontal and vertical. You can check this out for yourself by simply looking through one at an LCD screen, like that on a laptop or LCD monitor, and rotating it.

Sorry if I'm rambling.

ya, but i dont think i had the CPL filter on for >290044.

for this>>289895however, it was annoying that at least a third of the shot would always have reflections no matter how many degrees i turned it. the reflective area just seemed to shift across the glass. shooting from a 45 degree angle to the glass is not always possible because it wouldn't look the way you want it - so its a trade-off i guess?

Mmm, something I haven't tried, but will do soon now that I've thought of it, is combining two polarisers.

Off the top of my head I have no idea if that would work or simply screw the light levels, but it's got to worth a shot. :)

Really what comes down to is that you've picked somewhat unisteresting subject matter. Go with the mammals, they are the most likely to be doing something interesting and the easiest for people to either relate to or personify (people like doing this and like photos they can do it with).

Steer away from a CPL unless you have the light to use it.

oh man, i thought the reptiles were way cooler :(

i don't think it was motion blur in this one>>289896, viewing glass for the enclosure was really dirty from all the monkeys licking it :/

but the trip was primarily supposed to be a date with the gf. next time, i'll try take some better photos now that i have a better idea of what to do.
