what nikon camera do you have?

Majority of nikon DSLRs have CLS capability with the SB-600, and the wireless system for me is a godsend.

Though honestly, if you can fork out a little extra money the SB-800 is really really worth it.

I just bought another 800 to add to my 800 and 600... so i can get near studio portrait shots.

Also... the 800 and 600 also work on some Non Nikon cameras... they worked on my girlfriends's Panasonic FZ-50... albeit only in MANUAL mode with no TTL... but i usually shoot manual anyway.

Get the SB600, i've got it for my D70 and F5, i-TTL is totally flawless.
even got a PC Sync adapter so i can use it with my older Canon Demi and Petri 7, but only in manual mode (because apparently thats cool in /p/ ) but kinda sucks figuring out the guide number with focal length, iso, aperture values.

Salesmen in a few shops around all advise against EF-500, even those who have Sigmas in stock. Get the SB-600 or one of the Nikon-compatible Metz flashes (although I find the UI of the latter confusing)
