I used a yellow filter. you don't need to mess as much with b/w film photos as with digital (digital BW sucks: small dynamics, muddy darks and clipped highlights)
>>124511 development is critical as well. I almost never print, always scan. you develop a bit flatter for better scanning. I choose my film/developer combinations carefully so my scans only require little adjustment.
printing photos is hard, but just like Photoshop, you need a decent exposure/development to start.
