These should be tighter even if you're expecting to crop. Also, the angles you're taking these pictures at aren't the best. Before you shoot a sports event, you should at least know the basis of the game so you have in mind what to take pictures of. Spike shots should be easy to take since the setter usually lofts it up for them. The ball should be much closer to the spiker, not a couple of feet away. You might as well set it to continuous shooting if you're using digital anyway.
