hi /p/

I visit you today with a RONERY thread.
Are you the only /p/hotographer or /p/hotography addict, or even gearfag you personally know irl?

Do you ever feel like you're the only one around you that actually gives a fuck about whether a pic is exposed to your liking, or if your gear is as badass as you like it to be, or simply enjoy taking pics very much (apparently beyond others' understanding)?

I used to be more or less out of touch with other photographers around here, though I still got a bit of recognition of my pics from my parents who were, in the past, photographers. However it seems once my stuff started getting recognized locally a whole bunch of people have sort of stepped in and now I sometimes I have to narrow the people I go shooting with down.

Its nice because a lot of them are very attractive female's. (though most are married...)

I go to the club in my area once and a while and do have some photog friends, but yes yes and yes.

My girlfriend pretends to be interested in my stuff.

I shoot a 8x10 with glassheets. I stand in the darkroom for hours on end, and rage at all the people in my school calling themselves "photographers". I would never call myself a photographer.

So, yes.

I know some other photographers a little. Don't see them much, don't care to. Just random people I know who also know what spotmetering is. Big whoop.

I know lots of "photographers," though.

One of my coworkers just got an XTi and is all excited and going out and taking pictures...in HDR. So not much there.

There's a reason I'm on here so damn much.

A friend of mine (ex-girlfriend, now just friends with benefits) is pretty into photography. She doesn't have much technical knowhow, but she takes pretty good pictures.

That's nice. I'm the first camerafag in my family. I actually have two friends who might be up for going shooting with me, even though they're not as enthusiastic or into technical knowhow. Perhaps they're enthusiastic in a different way.

That sounds fun/complicated/rewarding/badass. Couldnt help but wonder though, why the rage about the kids at school. Fucking noobs or something?

Well, I wouldnt call myself a photographer, but this hobby has pretty much become an important part of my daily life, and I'd certainly like to make something out of it eventually (part time job or something, who knows, maybe more).

Ah well, newb's having his fun, who can blame him? I can see what you mean though.
(not to diss HDR, btw; I personally think it can be done right, although most people will just fuck up)

I met a sonyfag the other day, but never added him to msn. He didn't quite know the benefits of Raw before I told him, and seemed convinced that point and shoots are better cause of the wider depth of field and because you dont need to focus them to fire the shutter. I might add him later though, he was nice.

i've only just recently made a handful of "photographer"--i know we're all cautious to use that term-- friends. it's very refreshing.

I've only met these few I mentioned.

And yeah, cautious, maybe we should just say camerafags?

On another note, I just submitted some pictures to a photography contest at school. There will be an exhibition of the top 20 at the prize winner announcement event in a few days. Maybe I'll meet some camerafags? Only thing that would possibly bother me to meet are brandwhores... but we all know those don't exist right?

i talk to my old photography teacher alot, he was a professional photographer for 20 years or something. he knows just about everything, especially when it comes to medium/large format. he's not real good at teaching photography to a class though somehow

i dunno anyone my age (in real life, anyways) real well that is actually into taking pictures. and that's discounting people who just pretend to be into it to be hip or whatever

I'm not a slut...I just love everybody. Is that so wrong?

my sister took photography in college and got herself a DSLR for xmas one year, but she only ever used it to take photos of her own face/best friend.

Its spent most of its time sitting around in the box as, over the years, she has gradually lost the battery charger, the battery itself and the flash card.

It pisses me off a little because i would love to learn to use it, especially since i cant actually afford a SLR of my own and am stuck with a noisy bridge P&S instead.

Rage because they use the B/W insta art technique and edit using curves. And they take shitty pictures.

There are three of us usually.

There's me with a Canon A550 and Canon A-1.
A friend who has a Nikon F4 and borrows his older bro's D40x if he feels like digital.
And another friend with a Nikon F60 and his dad's Canon 350D with only a kitlens but has plans of acquiring more soon.

We're cheap.
