What does /p/ think of Picasa? Is it enough for amateur DSLR photography, or is there a better program for the novice? It seems to have a decent set of editing tools.

It's really powerful, the straighten tool alone is better than anything I've seen in a photoediting program before.

Well, i use it.

Its fine for touching up shots but it isnt much of an editor.

For a beginner, it's very intuitive. The only bad thing is that it kind of keeps track of almost every single image on your computer. Change some of the options so it will be a little less intrusive and you should be okay. I like it a lot and it makes a lot of things easier for me. It's also nice to just browse through all of my pictures at once.

I use it to easily upload pics to Picasa web albums, but not for editing pictures. Microsoft's Picture It!, now called Digital Image Suite works for my purposes.

BTW, I use a Canon A520, so I'm not taking anything spectacular or that complex in the first place.

It helps me straighten out my panorama's much quicker than gimp, and helps me quickly go through all my jpegs for posting.

Kind of like Lightroom. jr lite bloat free.
