so i got a lens from bhphotovideo that's advertised as "Sigma Zoom Normal-Telephoto 55-200mm f/4-5.6 DC Autofocus Lens for Nikon Digital AF"
but its not an autofocus. what gives?

No lens motor in body means non-AF-S/AF-I lenses are manual focus only for D40/D40x

How do I know which lenses will work with her camera?
She bought it without asking me and doesn't know anything about photography. I'm still not sure why she bought a DSLR instead of a P&S, but she's my best friend's girlfriend and she asks me questions about her camera every time I visit him.

If you're buying a Nikon lens, it needs to say AF-S somewhere in the name.

If you're buying a Sigma lens, it needs to say HSM somewhere in the name.

If you're buying a Tamron lens, it needs to say wait, I actually don't know. I don't think they have a tag for it.
