/p/, why are my photos so blue?
I took these yesterday in Japan's Chinatown, and I thought they'd come out more colorful :( .
may someone give me some advice as to what to do to prevent this happening again?

sorry, i'm a complete noob with a camera and a manual lens.
i'll google these immediately

Shoot raw. If you won't, manually set the white balance before you shoot. One or both of these together will fix the problem absolutely.

What lens?

I was shooting fine because I wanted to get more shots in, but I'll try out raw.

I'm using a Nikon Zoom-NIKKOR 70~210mm 1:45.~5.6

You fucked up the white-balance, but it can be sorta-kinda fixed in PS or any other editing app.

You're just using the wrong white balance. Also, always shoot in RAW, that way you can fix it afterwards, if you forget to manually set it in the camera. D100...just hit Menu -> Shooting Menu -> White Balance. You'll see various options in there, as well as auto.

OP, you don't have to shoot raw and do color balance in shoop if you're a noob. Personally, I shoot jpeg and set the color balance as appropriate for the shot. I'm happy with the results I get so I'm gonna keep doing that way.

As other /p/eople have said "AUTO" color balance is right pretty much all of the time. The exception I find is indoors without flash, in which case I set mine to "fluorescent" or "tungsten" depending on the lighting (just have a look at the type of bulb). I do this cause auto tends to pick up a greenish tinge from fluoros and an orange cast from regular tungsten bulbs on my camera.

Incidentally, that's why your pic is blue - blue is the opposite of orange which tungsten balance corrects for.

Also if you get really out there color casts like the blue in your pic the first thing you should check is the color balance setting. It's pretty easy to see that the color is wrong on the lcd when you're shooting.

Happy shooting.

Your picture is sideways, so all the blue is pooling up in it. Try turning it, it may fix your problem.
