Handheld yes, was a bit of a bitch taking that shot due to it being rather cloudy (thus poorly lit) and due to the light breeze in the air (goddamn leaves wouldn't stay still). This was the best of 5 shots I took, one turned out very nicely composed but was too blurred to be used.
Thanks for the tip about about changing the ISO speed, didn't cross my mind before. As for teh USM, alas I'm only a noob and haven't gotten around to getting anything other than the 18-55mm kit lens yet (which I know has been said to suck on multiple occassions). Got my camera a month ago, with extremely limited knowledge and experience, basically just trying to explore the different settings so I'll be able to get my camera to take the shots I want it to.
Here's another shot and this is one of my favorites, again I've livened up the colours using photshoop, I'll post the original if requested.
