Active Monitor on SLR's ? Anonymous
Question. Do any slr's have a monitor thats active during shooting? Basically for an alternative to the viewfinder. I'm really pondering getting into a pro camera because i feel like Im at a limit with what this pro-sumer equipment can do. On the other hand i really like the freedom of using the view screen to frame shots out of my heads reach.

Use the viewfinder, faggot.

To answer your question: Yes there are DSLRs with live LCD.

If you think that your SLR needs one than get ready to pay some big bucks for a quality one; I personally am fond of viewfinders and believe that framing shots with just an LCD screen is ineffective.

Yeah, i learned on viewfinders Im excited to use one only with a digital. I just think other option may be a nice tool in some situations.

the latest generation of SLRs have "live view" and similar features in the various brands. Shop around and see which one suits you best if you're set on a SLR.

What you need is a Nikon D3.

I'm not on this board a whole lot, what is the ratio of Canon:Nikon on the site?

its somewhere around flamewar:shitstorm

Don't bother with what all the fans of each system say when it comes to brands. As long as you buy one of the major three systems out there (Nikon, Canon, Four Thirds), you'll get a good one. Choose the one that you like the most. There's not really a lot between them.

Yeah i pretty much have Canon tattooed on my ass. I have two speedlites an the other various accessory's that i've been using with my G2 and now G9. From what i can tell its not worth the additional investment for me to defect to Nikon.

Pretty much once you have got something from one of the systems there is almost never ever any reason to switch.

I take it you're an Olympus user?

Four Thirds isn't a major system. I'm guessing that the total userbase of Four Thirds cameras from all three companies making SLRs in the system *maybe* equals the number of people out there using the Nikon D40 or the Canon Digital Rebel XT.

So you don't think I'm just talking out my ass:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20071017/tc_nm/olympus_camera_dc
"[Olympus president] Okubo said Olympus's share in the digital SLR camera market is expected to come to around 7 to 8 percent in the year to March 2008."
This is vs. Canon and Nikon's combined ~80% of the market (with Nikon currently in the lead after a long stretch of it being Canon). Hell, much as I mock Butterfly for her Sony fanboyism, the Alpha has a larger marketshare than Olympus. And when you think about that, take into account how much the Alpha sucks.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
there are also viewfinder extensions... but they sell for about 200-300 dollars
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>89902

hmm yeah i even rememebr reading that the president of Olympus had an ambitious goal to get Olympus to have 20 or 25 % of the DSLR market in the next 5 years or something...

That's honestly laughable when you apply common sense to it. They're getting to 7% or 8% in 2008... how on earth could any company gain that much ground in a few years? especially in a field where there's hugely fierce competition.

Nikon and Canon certainly won't lose ground to 4/3s... and i don't think Pentax and Sony have 12% market share to lose to Olympus.

Thanks for the feedback, I've learned alot.
looks like I need to trip code if I'm going to roll in /p/

Her? There are no girls on the internet. Also, that should be fanGirlism, then.

Also, Canon EOS 40D. Which i'm saving teh monies for to replace my 350D.

don't get a tripcode unless you have something to fucking OFFER and you want to be held accountable for whatever that is.

99% of the time being anon is perfectly fine.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
I only have a tripcode for trolling (here sony alpha etc) Its helpful for people to direct hate at. If you are just posting the odd photo having a tripcode will be against you.

>>89902
Sony have that much market share with ONE?CAMERA, stop being so mean to them :P I know most people hate sony because sony has a reputation but their cameras are just minolta rebadges for 90% and THAT?IS?WIN.

Only the Olympus E-3 and Panasonic L10 have Live View with swivel screens.

>>but i dont see canon or nikon making anything else

That's not really the point.

Sony is a jump starter, i personally think it's good that they can be third and be an entirely new player regardless of the KM absorption.

But don't get all defensive. I think it's stupid when people defend any system when they've had absolutely nothing to do with its inception...

we're all consumers...

Other than /p with all its wondrous constructive feedback and comradery, what other boards/communities are worth going to for feedback and q&a? Mainly Canon if possible.

Like i found this guy: http://photography-on-the.net/forum/
looks lively enough.

shitloads... there's fredmiranda. the dpreview forums are good... there must be an equivalent to Nikonians.org for Canon...
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>90135

oh yeah, get a flickr account (it's free) and visit the groups... alot of them have good feedback groups, and you can always check the photostream of the people giving you comments to see if they're worth it.
>> Macheath !8b4g0BkNZg
>>90135

Are the dpreview forums really that good? I got the impression that their users are very much biased for one system or another. For example, the D300's ratings are in the 3s and 4s. You know why? Nikon fans gave it 5s across the board even before the thing was released (one of the reviews said they were basing it on the D200...). Presumably, Canon fans angrily gave it 1s, Nikon fans counter by rating it again, Canon fans re counter, rinse, lather, repeat.
>> Anonymous
Where are the Pentax forums? :P

Seriously, though, dpreview's forums are informative (though often brand-specific)

>>90135
fredmiranda is shit. You think the fanboyism is bad here?
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>90172

there are fanboyisms everywhere, but that place is great since they have weekly assignments for you to experiments shots with.

It's up to YOU to have critical analytical skills to determine what's good and bad advice. For every Thom Hogan there are 100 Ken Rockwells... but that's part of the territory.

>>90138

like i said, it's usually good to read the posters' other posts and check their photostream. That's usually the best way to determine their integrity.

Don't get caught up in the brnad shit fights... god it's just so pathetic. Non of those douches had anything to do with the inceptions of those brands... they're just consumers... i find it odd when they act like as if they made the things.
