I recently overheard a salesman at a local office supply store saying that the canon S3 6MP 12x camera will get a better picture than a newer kodak Z712 at 7.1MP and 12x zoom as well, also knocking the Sony H7 for cards being expensive. how true is this?

megapixels =/= picture quality

so canon's sensors are that much better than kodak's?
>> Anonymous
Megapixels dont mean anything but the print size

Yes. Kodak fails at making sensors with low noise.

how's the sony DSC-H7?

Sony sucks. Pretty cameras, good technology, but overpriced and mass market targeted features. Go for Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Pentax.

It's a Sony so it probably sucks.

I have a Nikon coolpix 8.1mp the best thing ever.

camera salesmen, in my experience - especially in electrical stores that don't specialize only in cameras, know dick about cameras. I've been shopping around lately and several couldn't even tell me if the D40 could take all nikon lenses or not.

"Uhh, I'd have to read the manual"

Indeed.

There are some camera salesmen that know a lot, but they are nearly always fanatical about some things or other. It's sometimes amusing trying to get advice, say, on Nikons from a Canonfag salesman who uses his in-depth knowledge of every Nikon camera to convince you that it sucks :D

One of those once tried to show me the vast superiority of Leica glass using 6x8 inkjet prints.

i used to work at an office supply store. i suggested products to customers totally at random. completely arbitrary. sometimes it was because i liked the box more on one than the other or because it was fun to say the brand name out loud.

so that was you, asshole

Do you actually need to know if the D40 will take all Nikon glass, or are you just using that as a litmus test?

(If the former, the D40 will mount and use all current Nikon glass and most old Nikon glass, but it won't autofocus with most of the old--or even current--stuff. The lens has to be either AF-I or AF-S to get autofocus. Also, the old glass won't let you use the meter, for reasons that are are either absurd or maliciously greedy, depending on your point of view)

i was 16. i needed money for fun. the store i worked at paid $8/hr when the min wage in my state was $6.15. what did i care if i knew what i was doing? it's the store's fault for hiring me.

autofocus is gay. what the fuck is up with the flash being needed to focus everything???

its much faster, and less retarded to focus manually. whats the big deal?

Hmm.... No. Nope, I'm trying to avoid taking flamebait right now. Sorry.

You can't focus manually with the dim asshole viewfinders of non-full-frame SLRs like the D40.

You already did that one.

I know, but I can't think of anything more intelligent to counter that guy this late in the evening.

I knew all about whether it could take the lenses or not. I just wanted to see what they would say.
