I saw these on sale today, bundled with a case and 8GB SD card. Since I need a cheapo compact camera to take abroad I'm thinking about getting it..

Pricing aside, is it any good?

well you've only posted a picture and not told us the name of the camera nor the specs. so asking if its a decent camera is kind of ridiculous. find the name of the camera, go to cnet.com and compare it and shit. to other ones. or just but the canon 1d MarkIII

Stuck with outdated or broken equipment? Looking to make the jump to a digital SLR? Canon has a little-known loyalty program that could make the purchase of your next camera quite a bit cheaper.
If you’re shooting with a current Canon camera, you can upgrade it to a refurbished, newer model for a significant discount. Canon offers the following models as upgrade options:
- SD850 IS $150
- G9 $250
- EOS XT (with kit lens) $275

This deal isn’t advertised, and you have to call Canon customer support at 866-443-8002 to get started. You’ll need to provide the serial number off your current digital camera in order to qualify. Each refurbished camera comes with a six month warranty.
The Rebel XT in particular is a great way to jump into digital SLR photography, as the camera is compatible with the entire EOS series of lenses. It’ll give the budding pro some room to grow.

exactly. look where minolta is today.

>>240348

protip: it was the digital transition that finished them off for good. They made some fantastic film cameras.

now if you'll excuse me, i've got to go have sex with my SRT 201 and the sexy Rokkor-x 50m f1.4 its got mounted.

they sell blue light bulbs with what looks to be some sort of plasticy confetti in them at wal mart?
>> Anonymous
>>240374
i'm curious if the AF 50/1.4 compares favorably to the old manual Rokkor 50/1.4, because i think sony still uses the minolta autofocus mount, but i don't know if their old manual lenses are compatible.

If only all companies were like pentax.

im sure its the same lens formula only the cheap plastic AF housing.

really the 100mm f2.8, the 135f1.8 the new zeiss 85f1.4 the 35f1.4 and the old 200f2.8 are the only pimes to consider on the konica-minolta-sony-zeiss whatever mount
>> Anonymous
>>240378
the macro 50mm is by far the sharpest
>> Anonymous
>>240286- EOS XT (with kit lens) $275

lol wut?

i'd love to get a backup body for $275

do i just need the serial number off any canon camera and that's it? don't need to actually send back your current camera
>> Anonymous
>>240388

no just call them with a serial number off ebay or something. its just a referb though
>> Anonymous
>>240388

Any of the following Canon models qualify for the upgrade deal as long as they’re out of their current warranty period:
S10, S30, S40, S45, S50, S60, S100, S200, S230, S300, S330, S400, S410, S500, SD110, SD200, SD400, SD550, SD600, SD700-IS, SD800-IS, SD1000, S1-IS, S2-IS, G2, G5
>> Anonymous
>>240392

oh.. what the hell i have a 30D but i want an extra body

what do i do, run to best buy and snatch a serial number?
>> Anonymous
>>240424
Oh, come on. Don't scam them. This is exactly what we should be encouraging companies to do- commit to their customers and their products, and offer useful, decent upgrades for electronic products. Canon is doinitrite, don't penalize them for it by stealing from them.
>> Anonymous
>>240424
use a broken qualifing camera on ebay's serial number
>> Anonymous
>>240444
And screw over the guy buying it. Come on.
>> Anonymous
You need to send in the actual camera, it's just a trade-in.
And there has to be something wrong with it, or out of warranty.
