Well, they are boring.

>>227450
That one's pretty nice, the others are indeed a little boring.

However, they don't feel overshopped, which is a great improvement from what I usually see from you! Off camera flash can be a very powerful tool, and might take a while to learn. It might actually be easier to make a good light set up with two flashes then one.

uninstall photoshop please.

Why do you care?

Pretty nice for your first go with it. Try using it during the day time next. That can also yield some interesting results.
I like the second one the most.
Others are good also.

thanks, i'll do that next time i have a shoot happening

anyone else got any more detailed crits?
'boring' won't help me get any better

beethy, I've bitched at you before, but these really are pretty good. Not boring, cool lighting, not necessarily over-shopped. Good shots.

Oh, and like the shots or not, isn't everyone glad to be back and judging beethy without mercy again?

trying to hold back on PP a bit

>>227890trying to hold back on PP a bit
THANK GOD. I thought I was going to have an epileptic seizure from seeing more of your PP.
>> Anonymous
Too much photo shop and the you least want to have some stop of light on the subjects face.
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
>>227905
please explain how there's too much photoshop.
exactly what about the PP is bothering you now?
and i intentionally went for the dark shadowy look.. i'm not defending myself.. i just feel these photos wouldn't be the same if they were brighter. then they'd be rather typical which is what i'm trying to avoid.

I like no. 2 quite a bit, and I would like no. 3 a lot too if the rim lighting on her hair was a little more even. Right now, on opposite sides of her head, I find it a little distracting.

2nd shot is my favorite because of the perspective and shutter drag but I agree with what others have said that you could use a bit more light on her face.
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
>>228160
Thanks. I guess I'll buy a 2nd flash then.
Apparently according to people on this photog forum the 580 EX II can fire off and act as a transmitter for the 430 EX (slave).
Do you (or anyone) know if the 430 EX II can do that also?

Just use a reflector to begin with - it's the cheapest 2nd flash. Also, you don't need TTL shit for this kind of stuff, just buy a Vivitar 285HV if you want another flash and chimp to find the light ratios you want or use a light meter if you have one.

thanks a lot, i'm copying that down!
i like cheaper alternatives, haha

Would like to see shots pre-photoshop and also a different choice in clothes - dark clothes in a dark setting, then the flash thang makes me lose interest. Love the idea of using the flash in an enclosed space, but want to see more of the subject next time please.

Also, a smile is nice sometimes! I look forward to more.

pre photoshop looks almost identical (see attached pic)
you make a good point on clothes/flash
i actually tried some non flash shots, nothing but darkness. my camera is shit at low light, can barely focus too
anyway, thanks for the lengthy comment

Thanks for that, I guess you didn't need to do too much to the original shot, which should make you more than a little happy!

Sorry if my points seemed negative by the way. I do like what you were trying to achieve. Ever think about doing something outside, but in the shadows?

I have some scans I made from a similar (ish) photoshoot in Japan from a great (now dead) magazine called The Face, but god knows what disc they are on. Later this year I will dig them out and post them here, hopefully you will get to see them as definitely "relevant to your interest"..

Keep shooting and also keep posting, be nice to see how you progress!

cool yea i'd appreciate that.
and i actually don't mind pointers, negative ones help me get better so it's all good
thanks again
