Speedlite 430 or 580? Anonymous
It's going on a 350D. The 430 is 240$ and the 580 is 360$. I can afford the 580.

If I get the 430, will I miss the extra power output and fast recycle time? If I get the 580, will it feel much bigger and heavier?

580, hands down. What's your body?

If you can afford the 580, get that then. It is better, no doubts about that. You don't sound like you'd miss the money so it's a no brainer in my opinion. The 430 is great for those on a budget instead. I doubt you'll feel as significantly more of a burden due to weight compared to the 430. Make sure you get the one you want. They update the lines every now and then so there are similar models and names.

What does that mean?

I think the 580 II was introduced early in 2007. What's the product cycle on these things?

It isn't too fast and that will be the peak for a good while, but you'll notice the 580 and 580II still floating around for sale. Make sure you know which it is before you buy. There are also older versions available second hand and so on.

It's the 580 II from B&H. I get all my stuff from them.

Can the 430EX go 180 degrees in both directions?

I just checked mine, it goes 90°one way and 180° the other.
