I was so eager when I bought my D80 that I bought a CF card without thinking.

what's your problem? SD cards cost the same as CF cards, and as for speed, D80 wouldn't have supported the UDMA CF cards anyway.

Jus' wondering, is that an SB-28? I cant work it out.
I would imagine it to be a 600/800 - but the round on the front tells me otherwise..

Btw: Take the CF card back, the shop will almost happily replace it. I guess they should have said something aswell.. if you bought the D80 at the same time..

Hm, be careful - ebay are extremely strict now with non-paying people, is possible for this to be followed up.

Random q: How does the 28 perform on the d80?

SD cards cost far less than CF cards do, but are slower. example: 4gb SD card at 133x: about $20. 4gb CF at 133x: around $50. 4gb CF at 266x: around $80.

I've noticed most SLRs use compact flash. Anyone want to explain the advantages of them? I'm guessing faster and more durable. Do they have different speeds like SD cards do?
>> Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH

I think SD = newer technology? not to sure.

CompactFlash cards are bigger, which means that the larger capacities come out sooner (or cheaper) for CompactFlash. The main reason they're used more, though, is that it's an older standard and therefore somewhat entrenched--people who spent a lot of money on CompactFlash cards didn't want to spend more money on SD when buying a new camera body. Given that card capacities have increased a lot more quickly than sensor resolutions, though, it's become a bit of a non-issue, and so SD coming up from the low end is starting to push out CompactFlash. Nikon did the switch first (with the D50 forward, I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong, D70/D70s users) and now Canon has finally taken the plunge by using SD on the EOS 450D (and as an option in one of the slots of the current 1D series)

theyre faster. the faster they are the longer you can continuously shoot before your buffer gets full. CF cards come in larger sizes. with the new SDHC standard, SD cards will be able to have 32gb cards which are not availible yet iirc, but CF cards are already available and have been available for some time in those sizes. something like that, i could be wrong about some things.

Sony being sony use CF and Duo on the A700 and CF on all the others.

32gb CF cards are currently so expensive that you're better off buying four 8gb ones instead (they hold like 500 RAW shots each, so it's not a problem changing them once in a while, also you lose less photos if a card dies)
And SDHC is already quick enough for amateur users not to notice, so convenience wins over speed here.

Do you think 1 GB would be enough? I usually turn the resolution down and probably wouldn't shoot in RAW too often. This is more of a computer issue since I don't want my photos taking up precious porn space in my HDD.

>>171863
D70 uses CF cards.
>>171892
I shoot 6mp raw files with a 1GB CF card. It's not too good, it can only hold like 180 shots but that's enough for me atm. Will probably buy a 4GB or 8GB card soon though.

I doubt I'd ever take more than 180 RAW shots in one outing. I think a 1 or 2 GB would be enough for me.
