So /p/ i need ur advice. I'm buying my first dSLR for school it's gonna be a D60 cuz it's cheap and still delivers good results for it's category (amirite?).
But i will be buying the body only so i dont end up with a kitlens which i will find utter crap after 6 months of school.

So tell me which lens should i buy, i was thinking of one of these 2:
- The Nikkor 55-200mm AF VR Lens
or
- The Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 Lens

I was told that to begin photography the 50mm was better because you couldnt zoom and you will have to think more about what ur taking a picture of.
At first i was thinking about getting a Tamron 18-200 lens but i thought the colors weren't that great and it often wasn't very sharp.
I don't know yet what I will be taking pictures of the most.

So halp /p/ thx

also, the kit lens (18-55) isnt bad. it covers very useful focal lengths (the 55-200 not so much). could probably get it on ebay for cheap cheap.

I'm going to be buying a vehicle to take me to work. I am trying to decide between a Volvo and a Mercedes-Benz Unimog

kitlens is not an option too many peeps here (including my teacher) saying i should go for the body and a decent lens :P.

My budget is about 200 euro which is about 300 dollar. So if you can think of any other good alternatives i might want to check out besides these 2

only the new 17-50 will autofocus with the d60

and the 28-75 doesn't autofocus at all on it

because a lens is completely useless without autofocus
>> Anonymous
>>263023

when you're using lenses that are designed with autofocus in mind with a shitty and useless focus ring, yes

I've been using the D60 with the kit lens almost daily. Bang-for-buck is unparalleled. I also own the 55-200 VR, for shooting at places where I can't get right up to the subject, and it's also a winner.

tldr: Get the kit lens al-freaking-ready. Even if it fails in a year, it's a year well-spent.

50mm 1.8, baby

a 50mm prime as the only lens is great on full frame camera, on a camera with cr(o/a)p sensor, it is as someone already have said, retarded.

You'll get the equivalent of 80mm, good look trying to use that as an all round focal length

>>264294
is retarded or a canonfag. don't listen. i'll go with retarded. it's 75mm on a nikon crop and still completely usable unless you're a fucking retard douche who can't do math.
>> Anonymous
>>264349
No, he's right about it not really being usable. I mean, yeah, you can use it, but it's not what you would want to use for most subjects. Usually, the perspective is flat without giving the subject that dramatic quality longer medium teles (say, ~85mm equiv. and up) do.

I've said this before on here- 75mm equivalent (don't really know about 80) is meh for pretty much everything except as a workhorse for shooting performances, speeches, etc, where it excels somehow. At least for me.
