You dont have to even look for em. Im sure theyll pop straight on your face when you see first ad from any photo store or electronics shop. Im quite sure even wal-mart has em. Go buy one.

Yeah, sorry about the earlier. I looked around a wee bit and it seems there are not many stores selling s3 is around my place. I'll probably order from somewhere else in the EU.

is SLR cameras hard to use? i'm planning to buy one as well, only for hobby purpose and since i love the slr-look and the possibility to change focus manuall, i'd prefer that one

bump. if slr is too much you can still sell it a couple of days later without any loss!
on the other hand go for canon a series and eventually upgrade using a hacked firmware (CHDK).

You dont need slr.

The only thing that separates SLRs from High End point and shoots aka bridge cameras are the replaceable lenses. If you plan on getting an SLR but only sticking with the kit lens, might as well get a fixed lens camera.

And the *vastly* better image quality you get from an SLR. And the honest-to-God glass TTL viewfinder.

I thought like you did once. Then I looked a little closer at the reviews and discovered that ISO800 on the cheapest SLR then available was as noisy as ISO100 on my high-end bridge camera.

exactly people serious about getting into it should never forget that, still i would guide people alond a series and then get a DSLR, when they want a progress, more freedom in decision for creative needs.

i could go on for hours that it's always a question of what you can do by "tricking" p&s to get just the result you intend, but that's another story... (still one woth mentioning)

i recommend a second hand canon rebel xti, (aka eos 350d). I saw one for 250$AUD, so Im guessing about 250US for a kit.
