I'm going to build my own makeshift light table this summer. You certainly don't need one, but it's definitley useful if you want to continue shooting slide film (or just get a projector). Also, try to find a good developer in your area for slide film as well. There was a previous thread on /p/ about some slide film being mishandled and that just makes me wary of using slide film in general. Slide film does not forgive, or forgive easily. It'll be a good test of your photography skills the first time you use it.
And if you don't want to do any research like I did before: Velvia 50 (out of print) >> Velvia 100 > Velvia 100F.
