China? Anonymous
Hey, I'm heading to China for a couple of months and I'm planning on taking A LOT of photographs. I will have access to a computer over there, but would their computers have a drive to take a standard UK SD card? Do they have USB ports? If anyone knows, please let me know. I'd love to be able to back up my photographs.

Reward will be: Awesome photographs of martial arts when I return :D

I didn't think they wouldn't be up to date, I just thought their technology might be different. I'll look out for an SD card reader just to be safe :)

are you allowed to leave the country with that level of stupidity???

i've lived in china for 3 years i can tell you that, yes they DO actually have USB there (i still cannot beilve that you asked a question like that).
But take a power adapter, they have 2 types of standard plugs, the 3 pin AUS/NZ and 2 pin USA. Many multi-boards can take the UK plug tho.

Wow you're an idiot. When was the last time you were in China with a camera?

LOL @ ignorance and calling out

There's only one thing you need to remember about shooting in China with a DSLR

When you change lenses make sure you are inside or somewhere WITHOUT wind. Because you will get the dustiest fuckin sensor EVER.

Good thing is that you can get it cleaned for pretty cheap. I got my sensor cleaned in both Nikon Shanghai and Beijing for about 100 RMB.

Even if you don't get it at the start of you trip. MAKE SURE you get it cleaned at the end.

China is a communist country. People disappear there all the time and if you step out of line there they'll take your camera or have you killed.

ITT: people who know nothing about China claiming to be experts.

China is the greatest threat to the world. Only a commie gook would see it otherwise. When the Chinese government tire of oppressing Asians they'll come for Americans. Don't trust them. Every good American in China should be careful. Don't turn your back on them.

I, for one, welcome our new chinese overlords.

Obviously the government there is pretty damn repressive at times (nothing to do with communism though), but if you think you're going to get rolled just for having a nice camera you're an idiot. It is really not hard to go have fun in China without getting arrested. You'd have to work at it. Beat up a cop or something.

Also answer my question. When was the last time you were in China with a camera?

America is the greatest threat to the world. Only a facist idiot would see it otherwise. When the American government tire of oppressing idiots they'll come for Asians. Don't trust them. Every good Asian in America should be careful. Don't turn your back on them.

If the Chinese government was randomly pwning foreign visitors their home states would raise quite a fuss and people would stop going. Think for a minute. The American State Department has a long list of cautions in the "safety and security" section of their traveler's guide to China, but the only things they caution about the police is that foreign visitors, especially sensitive ones like journalists and businessmen, can be searched without warning. And the usual "don't shoot military stuff, dumbass." I'm opposed to the way the Chinese state does business, too, but it's not some vortex of vanishing tourists.

But you're that troll from the Sally Mann thread, aren't you?
