howcome the sunny 16 rule doesnt work at all for me? it seems it only works if you're in the desert at midday, otherwise everything is underexposed.

was trying my camera on manual mode at the zoo and in most cases i had to stop the aperture to f/5.6, even in bright as fuck daylight. ISO 200, shutterspeed 1/200th as per sunny16.

Practice more.

Actually, the sunny 16 "rule" underexposes when at the desert... or rather, at the beach. It's a funny thing. It's just a rule of thumb if anything. Certainly the quality of the light needs to be accounted for and that would deviate from f/16 and the corresponding shutter speed.

If it doesn't work for you, find something that does.

and i just found out there's no exif on the past 3 albums of my photos. wtf.

okay im trying to wrap my head around the zone system now. will try it out sometime next week.

but here's another question:
why does the picture get extremely noisy in low light conditions, or when the subject is really close up? it shouldn't happen unless the ISO changes.

it's always there mocking you but in those conditions its true form is revealed

What ISO setting did you use at that picture? ISO80 shouldn't produce any noise, ISO200 can.

you best be trolling or just n00b.

I went and pointed my camera out the window set to sunny 16. Everything was between -1 and +1 stops of exposure. +1 if there was mostly sky in the shot and -1 if I filled the frame with mostly ground.

ISO200 is the lowest on the D40.
