What does /p/ think about HDR?
I'm currently fascinated by it, and I'm trying to learn more about it.
I'm still getting the hang of it using CS3 and Dynamic Photo HDR.

though your picture is pretty tastefully done, it's still HDR.
/p/ hates HDR.

Isn't this just tone mapping.. Real HDR requires a special monitor to view them.
>> Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH
>>268097
Depends..

Basically to achieve the 'hdr' effect you need details in the shadows & highlights. Making the tonality range alot bigger than it would normally be.

An 'average' monitor is able to display these details to an extent.

even discounting /p/'s justified hatred of hdr;
Well, this may seem like an obvious thing to say
BUT WHY THE HELL WOULD THERE BE SUNGLARE IF IT'S AN OVERCAST DAY
ffs.

I wanna learn HDR for portraits rather than landscapes.
Here's an example I really love.
>> Anonymous

no... hdr = high dynamic range meaning you get all tones in, the medium, light and dark instead of loosing some e.g. in ops pic the first image looses detail in the sky, secondpic, he has retreived the detail in the sky

hdr is basically getting ALL the tones into the image

post the original pls?

i disagree HDR thats pleasing to the eyes are fine by me, the eye bleach shit made by retards that everyone else thinks are "ZOMFGLOLART" that make me RAAAAGE!1
>> Foca !ZPmgSZGczM
>>268105

there's nothing really to learn about HDR. just take 3 or more photos with different exposure times and use photomatix to merge and tonemap them.

also, is it just me or are we getting more and more tripfags every day?
>> Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH
>>268106
basically what i said

Why do you keep posting that photo without the police boat?
>> Anonymous
>>268110

i do my hdr all with photoshop 100% never use a 3rd party program, just use layers and stuff like that
>> Anonymous
>>268112
the boat is ugly so i removed it lol
>> Anonymous
about HDR, is there a program that automatically removes ghosting? I tried hdr sometimes but always get people or cars moving through the pictures.
>> Foca !ZPmgSZGczM
>>268109

not all HDR is bad, but i agree that most HDR is done by idiots that just think it's insta-art.

^ that's shit
however,

^ that's brilliantly done.

>>268116
photomatix works great
>> Anonymous
>>268116

Not sure about automatic, but Dynamic Photo HDR has a thing where you can remove it yourself, not all that hard really.

photoshop is all you need phags

1. Shoot in RAW
2. Process in Adobe Lightroom

lol, no.

You need to use a file format that allows for far greater colour depth, like 48bit/pixel or something, jpg/png posts to this board are like 8bit or 16bit.

People who use tone mapping are complete retards, go talk to someone in 3d graphics, who make 48bit panoramas for use as environment maps in 3d renders.

>>268096

LOL you managed to LOSE detail in the shadows with your "HDR".

Nice job faggot.

The bane of /p/hotography. The OP's picture is awful and tasteless.

I think HDR CAN be used tastefully but I think it rarely is. I'm not really sure what to compare it to, to be honest. Perhaps its a bit like an over-produced album. It would have been better without so much processing.

Yea, I personally like HDR, if its done right. A lot of HDR pictures have absolutely no composition. I do some HDR tone-mapping to my pics, but only for the contrast. I'll then go in and mute some of the color, like in this example i shot the other day
>> Anonymous
see that's a really nicely done type of HDR
>> Anonymous
>>268235

that's not so bad.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
HDR wont make a bad shot good, but it might make a good shot great.
>> Anonymous
>>268242
True. Sadly people online get more wrapped up in photoediting (and especially with whatever is trendy) rather than trying to nail down getting a decent photo to start with.
>> Anonymous
>>268235

IDIOT ALERT! HDR reduces global contrast, moron.
