Everyone should have this or the 1.4. Go for it.

And yeah normal price should be under 100 bucks.

Got this in the capital city for 86 USD. Of course, where I live they are selling for 120 USD. Living on an island sucks :/

Anyway, a good lens!

I've been debating getting the 1.8 or the 1.4, but so far I'm leaning more towards the 1.4 - faster, better bokeh, better build quality, and sharper wide open. I hardly ever use my Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, because it's a bit too soft and the build quality sucks, so I'd rather not make that mistake again...

Since someone is likely to ask:
Brand new 50mm f/1.8 lens, used twice to shoot two rolls of film. Not abused and stored camera-mounted in a padded bag.

I couldn't find the receipt so I fixed it myself.

Actually, my question is: What the hell did you do to that poor lens?

The 50mm f/1.4 costs $300. The 50mm f/1.8 costs $75. The 1.4 might be a little more likely to survive a drop, but you can buy four 1.8s for the price of one 1.4.

get the f/1.4 it's a great lens but you really need it 1.8 for decent clarity(i have it)

Shot less than a hundred photos with it, keeping the lens mounted to a film body stored in a padded bag.

The silver ring worked loose and the front popped out but it was easily fixable.

Still feels like a plasticky POS though but whatcha gonna do

I have to believe you just got a bad copy. I've taken several thousand shots with mine on both my film and digital cameras, with lots of swapping, and with a good deal of mistreatment (i.e., when a girl at the wedding I was at last weekend tried to zoom with it. By turning the focus ring back and forth repeatedly. In autofocus mode), and mine's still going strong.
