I own a silver EOS ELAN IIe. Damn good camera, it is built like a tank - none of this plastic not-so-fantastic crap. And it feels good in your hands too! I also have the BP50 battery pack, it really makes it much easier to hold!
The pop-up flash is noisy (mechanical whine, then a snap as it pops up) and not all that powerful, but just get an old EZ flash and attach it. (Also most modern Canon flashes should work, however they will revert to the older [A-TTL?] flash system.) Then you have a cheap but powerful camera with most of the features of a D-SLR camera (minus the white balance and other digital only features, of course!) for a damn cheap price. I would have paid around $110 all up for mine. $20 for a 300EZ flash. $20 for the camera (no lens) $20 for a 35-80mm f4.5-5.6 USM stock lens $50 for the BP-50 battery pack.
Sorry for the crap image quality, it is straight from my camera, no editing at all......
