FLASH? BurtGummer
Ive Got a Nikon D80, but most of my photography is at night. So i reckon a Flashgun is in order..

Whats great for the price?

GO /p/ GO!

/p/ liek Vivitar 285HV because it's cheap and fucking powerful. Or get Metz 58 if you want TTL metering and other bells and whistles.

(By the way, flash is not going to help much if you meant *outdoor* night photography)

Yeah, I was thinking that, too. Maybe you should get a good tripod instead?

Vivitar 285HV: Looks insanely old, am i wrong?

Metz 58: Costs more than a Nikon SB800! Which is ideal, but over my budget !

Any more ideas??

Is there anything wrong with the SB-600? Great and <$200.

Outdoor and indoor, I do a little of everything. Outdoor i use it to fill in when the weathers crappy or i get dark areas..

...( looks into the SB600 ) actually thats a pretty good choice. Not bad at all. Any other suggestions? Ive got a tripod.

Just be sure to pick up a Sto-fen diffuser, as I don't think the SB-600 comes with one.

omnibounce vs lightsphere

which is ultimate win

Que?

What's the fastest lens you have? That'd help quite a bit, too, and in more situations than a flash.

Sto-Fen Omnibounce vs. Gary Fong Lightsphere.

Which is better?

18-135mm is the shortest lens, 1/4000 of a second? I think?

...its goin to be used to fill in group shots and capture night antics..

please tell me you're trolling

hah, no, but seriously, i have no idea how fast it is... im just that good at this.

He was asking what is the maximum aperture out of all your lenses.
>> Nougat
>>126907

F3.5 (W) - F5.6 (T)
>> sv !!vC9KZM3Ch/H

So you have the 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6.

I'm not convinced a speedlight is going to help you a whole lot with night photography, but I'm still not sure what kind of situations you'll be using it in.

A faster lens might be better, say the 50mm f/1.4 or f/1.8. Bump up the ISO, and try center-weighted metering.

Maybe consider trying to rent a speedlight first and trying it out?

285HV was put onto market in 2006 or 2007... there's nothinng bad with old look, unless you want to fap to your equipement (in that case, get sb-800, it has lower GN than vivitar, but it has "new" look lol).

thank gawd someone said this. i was losing all respect for /p/ with every flashgun-recommending post. but maybe i'm jumping the gun.

BurtHummer, what kind of night photography do you do? Oh, could you also tell us what gear you use?
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
I have a 4.5-5.6 lense that i use for club work. Paired up with the F56-AM flash.

I use 1/8 power with a 0.4-6" exposure to get the people + backlighting at ISO 400.

Just for reference.

GN isn't everything. A TTL flash like the Nikons is a lot easier to control, which may be helpful to OP. It's not just the "new look" they're selling it for, faggot.

well, Nikon D80 (obviously), 164cm tripod (cheap but solid), built in flash... and thats it!

my night captures tend to be of people either in reasonable dark places, portaits, and night captures of people performing night maneuvers with paint...

A better bounce card.

>> BurtGummer
