How does /p/ manage to get stable photographs with very little blur? I often have to drop the aperture size just to improve the brightness, which often results in annoying blur shit.

Pic not very related.

Like I said, pic not very related. I have taken loads of pics that have a lot of motion blur.

Rule of thumb is shutterspeed = 1 stop faster than the 35mm equivalent of the focal length you are using.

If the pic is yours, you had your auto-focus on the flower, if you wanted that and the dog to be in focus try lower your F-stop, for a shot like this you could try f/8 to f/11. but then to properly expose you would need a slower shutter speed, so if you would like to counter that you can set the ISO to a higher number.

better yet, don't use all of your autofocus points, select the center one then focus on your subject, lock that focus, move camera to your composure of liking and snap the shot.

I'm not sure how to lock focus on a Nikon. but on Canon you can select the One Shot autofocus mode to do what I am talking about. Also, AE lock.

The annoying blur shit is bokeh.

Use a wider aperture and higher ISO to get a faster shutter speed. Also, you could use a tripod/stop shaking your hands.

If you're using a long lens then you will get camera shake unless you use a really fast shutter speed.
