Hi /p/

have a question about image tanks. I'm about to buy one and was wondering if you have any experience/recommendations.

I have SDHC card, so this is one thing that must be supported by IT.

The one I was looking at is Jobo SPECTATOR 120GB.

if you've got an ipod, you can buy this adapter thing that'll copy all your photos onto the hd of it.
This cost me about £10? And I already had a 20gb ipod, so I just use that to store files.
Only con is that its slow to transfer. >.<

I've been thinking about the same thing recently. I was considering mp4 players being used just for this and image displays. I hear China make some cheap ones with big screens.

i dont really see the point in one
if you run out of space while taking pictures you can delete the ones you obviously dont want, and im sure a 120gb spectator cost as much as some memory cards.

What if his card is filled with shots he likes? Does a 120GB Spectator cost as much as 120GB worth of cards?

To fill up an entire 120GB device full of pictures in one outing, you'd have to keep your finger down on a 5FPS camera for hours.

Not if you're shooting RAW.

Or you could be on holiday or another country. Some people actually leave their house to take photos.

Or you could just bring your laptop. A 120GB one only costs a bit more.

Can pick up a cheap second hand one for under £100. Probably with around 100gb. Thats less than a Tank like that'd cost I think.

Some people don't have laptops which would be strange considering whoever needs an image tank probably has good gear. And what if you're out in the field and want to do it quickly? No place to put your laptop down and no time to wait for the OS to boot up and really no time to wait for it to transfer while an image tank can transfer files while you leave it in your bag or pocket.

laptops are bigger and heavier and more likely to be stolen

You're both missing the point. To the first, RAW wouldn't matter either. It's still an obscene amount of pictures. To the second, then buy a couple more 4GB cards. A tank is not necessary to the point of pointlessness.

exactly.

ive been away on weekend shoots with a 4gb card shooting raw and ive never filled it up, and if i did i'd just delete the ones i know arent any good.

theres no way i have 400+ absolute keepers lol.

failing that, buy another 4gb card, there so damn cheap

I've been off on a shoot or holiday for a month or more. It helps then.

Jebbus, if you're going to be spending around $400 for a fucking glorified external HD, buy a cheap fucking laptop and install CS3 and Lightroom.

Then you can get a better look at your shit, store it, process it, AND be able to post it so /p/ can tell you how much time you wasted.

if you are going up the mountains size matters.
And small image tang is much easier to carry around than laptop.

It's like an extra 4lbs. It's not that big of a deal, not even by backpacking standards.
