Anyone here worked as a military photographer? Anonymous
I'm thinking of joining the canadian forces and taking on that role. Has anyone here had experience(in any military) doing this? If so, what could i expect as far as training?

You have to be able to kill terrorists, yet take amazing photographs at the same time, possibly putting your own life and camera at risk.

ARE YOU READY?

I think that as far as the US military goes, you undergo the same type of training as your teammates. But you gear up differently in actual combat situations. You don't particularly get treated differently just because you carry a camera.

DON'T JOIN THE CANADIAN ARMY!

Besides that, I can tell from my own experience that it is fun to be a soldier IF YOU CARRY A GUN! If you're not it's lame and you die...
Anyway you should become a photo journalist in a warzone instead. Then you can quit anytime you want when the shit hits the fan.

Wehrmachtfag here.

Been a journalist in the Bundeswehr but only for a limited time. Anyway, mostly you stay in your country and take there pictures for internal and external media of weapon systems and occasions.

Also met guys who actually went to Afghanistan with their cameras but didn't see any action because it would be retarded to be in the middle of an operation with only your camera. Instead they only took pictures from safe patrol routes and the life inside the barracks.

Seriously, become a photojournalist. You don't wear a uniform that screams "SHOOT ME!!!" and if you don't get killed but captured there is a better chance they don't cut off your head for lulz but want to exchange money for your life.

I know in the US military, it's a crapshoot. You may end up doing shitty local PR stuff, or you may get hooked up with all the parachuting training and take pictures of the skydiving teams in mid-air, and everything in between.
