Hey /p/, whats a good cheap digital camera to dedicate for IR? US 125 or less.

Not sure that such a thing exists. I know some Sonys have a don't-use-the-ir-filter feature, but I don't know if I'd class them as 'good', and I don't know if they can be had for under $125.

(One of these days, when I'm massively wealthy--presumably from some sort of robbery, or a hitherto unknown rich relative's death--I'm gonna get me an old Rebel XT and have its IR filter changed to a visible light filter for IR DSLR goodness. But that's like $600 just for the filter swap)

You could pick up an older digital camera and open it up to try to remove the hot filter (a piece of somewhat green looking plastic / glass that sort of glows red when light reflects off of it). Then just put a sheet of IR filter on it and there you go.

It's not as cheap as you want, but I think I remember the D100 being a commonly modified camera for IR. I've heard they go as cheap as $250 used nowadays, which is pretty damn good for a decent DSLR.

OP here, ive done it with a toy camera but the damn thing is only little more than a webcam you can take on the go. I'm hoping to find something that will at least focus.
