Protip: when taking a group shot of your friend, after they're all good and posed with their boring photograph smiles, say something wildly inappropriate. In this case, it was "Okay, now pretend like you don't hate Grant (the dude in the upper right)" In other cases, something simple like "Ass, titties, ass'n'titties" sufficed.

End transmission.

Because I'm too lazy to pull the images from Aperture rather than just use flickr, the EXIF is simple. Nikon D50, 50mm, all shot wide open at 1.8

How much did you get your 50mm lens for?

I believe $130 new with tax. You can get them cheaper. Canon's is like twenty bucks cheaper.
>> Choamsky
I'm looking at getting one, it seems to be one of the better and cheaper Nikon lens.

it's the best for the money. It's definitely one of the sharpest, even as sharp as their pro glass, sometimes sharper. I just don't like the build quality of it, the focus ring isn't smooth, which is a big deal for me, since I like manual focus so much. Its autofocus is spot on though even with a D50. I can only imagine on a better camera what it'd do.

On second examination, my friends may be "special". It would explain the short bus.

Protip: this might backfire badly if you forget that you're a /b/tard and they're not. ;_;

The Nikon 50mm f1.8D is sex. Its a fucking awesome lens, and much cheaper than ther f1.4D. But there is an f1.2 manual lens around, methinks. Not sure tho, I know pentax have an awesome f1.2 lens which works really well on the K10D, which is an awesome camera. Awesome.

Nikon f/1.2s are extremely fucking rare. I've never seen one. There's a manual focus 50 1.2, an old non-AI 55 1.2, and the ludicrously expensive 58 1.2 Noct-Nikkor, which sells for as much or more than a Noctilux.

I'm switching over to Pentax almost FOR their 50mm f/1.2. I can't wait! It's a beautiful lens.

My friend's got a 50mm f/1.2 sitting in his closet, probably rotting and etched from fungus. I should go liberate it.

Seriously! 1.2 is very close to the fastest lens money can buy! I would jump on that. The only lenses faster are the Noctilux, the Canon f/0.95, and the Zeiss f/0.7 lens that Kubrick used on Barry Lyndon and NASA used on the Apollo missions. And there's like... four of those. No joke. It's really only the Noctilux and Canon "Dream" that are that fast.

He's already said he doesn't want to sell it to me even though he hasn't used it in years. The worst part is that it's mounted on an F2 that's also going unused D:
He's also got a pile of bronica stuff

oh, good call.

I'd probably be able to gank it from him without him even noticing, really. That'd be shitty to do though, he's been a good friend. He did give me one of my favourite lenses for film, a vivitar series 1 28-105. The first-run version

Yeah, but 50mm on a DSLR sucks.

? 30mm F1.4 FTW!
