What do you guys think of the Camera Armor?

I want to get one for my D60 and at $50, it's super cheap for good protection against scratches and water.

It covers everything from the LCD to the lens.

Looks really stupid. Obviously won't make it water-proof, or really even resistant. Just buy a Pentax weather-sealed SLR if you're worried about that kind of thing.
>> Anonymous
Oh well, I'm not going to throw it in water or anything. But it's better than the naked body only.

Is there any better protection for $50?

Totally useless against water/weather.
All this will do is protect you against some superficial scratches.

You shoulda bought a Pentax!

Not really. It just makes your camera way harder to operate. Neck-strap is better protection than that rubberarmor.

That's kind of what I want..

Useless. Like a condom with air vents on the end. Will make it feel bulkier and clunky. Just use your fucking camera. It won't crumble to dust in your hands.

Oh shit, you don't want to get any tiny scratches on your precious camera?

Then fuck yeah, spend $50 on that bitch.

I've found they're great... i can bounce my D80 all over the place like a rubber ball.

no, actually, sometimes it's fecking annoying, but at the same time,it has helped avoid some splashes on the body and i think it must have helped save the body when i dropped it from 6ft onto concrete (yeah, hy heart stopped)

Camera insurance is cheaper, less ugly, and (unlike Camera Armor) will protect your camera.

1) It has huge holes all over it. It does not protect your camera from water AT ALL.

2) Use the next strap or a wrist strap, you stupid fucking shit. Anyone who drops an SLR has no right to be using one.

Whenever there's rain I just wrap a scarf around the lens and camera (my hand is under the scarf so I can still use it).

If you use your camera in an environment where this camera armour would become useful, you should obviously get a more professional body. For shit's sake, I've used a D200 for the past year and a half. The painting is scraped and I've worn down two straps, but it still works like new.

If you really, really need this armour shit, then you really, really need a D3 too.

As has already been pointed out, this will not actually protect your camera against anything.

As has not been pointed out, it will actually most likely make small surface scratches worse. Much like those idiotic magnetic "save our troops" stickers on cars, the rubber covering will trap small particles of dirt and sand against the camera body. Since it's flexible, it will move around slightly every time you touch the camera, thus grinding the trapped dirt into the plastic body of the camera. You might as well just wrap your camera in sand paper and get it over with quicker.

This crap is definitely one of the dumbest photographic products I've ever seen.

Here is some real advice for keeping your gear in good working order:

1. Buy quality equipment in the first place, then use the hell out of it.

2. Use a neck or wrist strap, and pay attention to what you're doing- which is to say don't be a dumbass.

3. Use a rigid lens hood- it will protect your front element without installing extra flare and reducing optical quality like a UV filter.

4. If you're in a lot of rain, learn to operate an umbrella or a ziploc bag. Both are cheaper and more effective.

5. Just use the fucking camera, that's why you bought it. Even a cheap one will take a whole lot more abuse than you think, but everything will eventually wear out. The more stupid useless shit you add to your camera, and the more afraid you are of breaking it, the less good pictures you will get.
