Nice shot, just wondering did you have noise reduction on at the time?
>> onelegout
I did, but this is from the RAW. There were 2 hot pixels on the jpg but as far as I can see, none on the RAW.

Cheers. It just looked odd because there seems to be no hot pixels, so I assumed noise reduction was on, yet there was no polarization :-/.
>> ?????????????????????????????Anymonous?
There are two hot pixels I can see on each side of the big bush. A blue one on the right and a pink...ish one on the left, but that one MIGHT be some lamp shining through from behind.

cool shot.

Thanks for pointing them out - I'll get 'em fixed before I make prints :)

What I found was that noise reduction only appears to affect the JPG. The RAW has FAR less noise and hot pixels than the JPG and doesn't get the posterisation that the JPG does with NR on.

What I've learnt from taking this photo is that RAW is a MUST with the A-100. Anyone who owns an A100 - START USING RAW IF YOU HAVN'T ALREADY!

Much love,
H

I don't know this brand of film, care to share some details? Think I'll be sticking with Ilford for the time being though.

RAW sucks.

ITT someone doesn't get it.

Personally, I'm sticking with my "JPEG looks fine and I have no patience or disk space for RAW" philosophy.

Still usin an A-100, still usin JPG, still not gettin any hot pixels.

Here's a 100% crop from the RAW file, original settings unchanged.

and here's exactly the same crop, from the JPG of that photo. (The camera makes a RAW file and a JPG from the same photo)

Now, if you still think that it's not worth using RAW, you must be mad.

if its anything like my D70, when you save RAW+JPEG, the jpeg is at its lowest quality (camera calls it RAW+JPEG Basic), i'm really sure your camera will produce such poor quality jpegs on max quality.

damn my typing, i always forget words out, i meant

>> onelegout
You've got a point there actually, but it's the noise reduction which seems to cause the posterization for me :S

Night shots or that really 'special' photograph should really be on RAW. If you want to shoot it in JPEG turn off Noise Reduction and fix any hot pixels in Photoshop later.
