i'm thinking of buying a cheap regular point and shoot digital camera. but the only thing i want the most from a camera, is if can take slightly wider pics... is there something from the specs that i should see? or like a resolution setting that crops the image taken. my broken Cybershot P-32 had this setting. i think it was a 3:2 setting.

hey that's a pretty cool photo. moar plz.

i dont think you're gonna get anything extra special in terms of wide angle with point and shoots. they're all pretty much the same, marketed through gimmicks and "z0mg LOTS OFF MEGAPIZELS lol" aspects. but im a n00b, so i wouldnt know much about this anyway.

Also, most people who buy P&S cameras think "zoom" means "telephoto", and they don't really think about wide angles.

Wide angle point and shoot cameras have been getting increasingly popular. Canon and Panasonic offer pretty decent models with a wide angle, such as the SD800IS and FX33. Both can be had for around $250.

Most cameras that are wide angle say so on the packaging, but you can always look up the focal range online. The wide angle on most compact cameras is 28mm. As far as the crop, the point and shoot sensors take 4:3 pictures and you'll have to set it yourself to 3:2.
