Z-120 has a pathetic selection of apperatures, and its fastest shutter speed is too slow (1/1600)

But i bought one anyway lol, just cause it was small and cheap for carrying on the skii hills.

Your shots need a background BTW, I find them to be too cluttered via the foreground, with no real subject.

Heres a repost but a good example nonetheless... (and yes I did take this picture)

Ya, it is a pretty good deal for the price. (funny small world sometimes hehe)

And one thing I just realized thats pretty amazing is that the flash sync is obviously also 1/1600, which is ridiculously fast for a camera (the D50 is only 1/500, and D80, D2X are only able to go that high when you use an external flash like the sb-600 or sb-800)

So heres a few things to watch out for on the Z-120,
Never use antishake DSP, All it does is crank the ISO up to 1600 and your photo's end up soo goddamn blurry from the noise that its worse than if you just tried to handhold it at like ISO 100.
Its apperature you will find only has 2 selections on apperature priority (f2.8 or F4 for wide angle and up to f4-f7.1 for tele)
so its pretty much useless to worry about that. Also though, on F4 pretty much everything is in focus, so Setting the focus to infinity will generally help you get action shots. and then the continuous shot of 1FPS will actually be somewhat usefull.

Battery life is decent with 2300nimh batteries but beware of the cold! Ive had fully charged batteries not even be able to take one shot because it was like -10 out.

Don't crank up the Sharpness or contrast, in fact i would set the sharpness to negative numbers.

And don't let any water get near the little power button on top, I shorted my camera out and it wouldn't turn on for 2 days once! (I take it skiing, so water is almost inevitable)

>>30872its fastest shutter speed is too slow (1/1600)

You know, 1/1600 really isn't that slow. I realise that most SLRs in the last 10-15 years have had rediculously high max shutter speeds, but it's completely unnecessary. Especially when you consider that a lot of very fine quality cameras have top shutter speeds of 1/1000 or 1/500 for leaf-shutter cameras. You can use a larger aperture, slower ISO, neutral density filters, so you don't need a 1/19457345 top shutter speed.

It is definitely a problem for me, The bright conditions and reflection off of the snow when skiing makes the 1/1600 a big problem.

1/1600 can only be accessed when your at the smaller step Fstop (F4 or F7.1 telephoto) And this is at ISO 50 (its lowest ISO). Its only 1/1000 at f2.8 (or f4 telephoto).

Its ruined quite a few panoramics for me, And shots like this (although not totally ruined) could have benefit from a faster shutter speed.

I don't suppose the camera has a ND filter built in or the ability to screw filters in front of the lens? This was one of the best features of the Canon G3 and I'd hope it was available in other cameras.

lol congratulations you made it look retarded.

The biggest problem with the pic wasn't how bright the white was, its that the shutter speed was too slow so the detail was lost in the white sections because it was overexposed.
