No fire. Anonymous
I have a Rebel XTi, just borrowing it from the school. I'm having a problem with the internal flash: the flash will pop up but the camera itself won't fire. I've tried several of the modes, shot in the dark, etc.

I however saw that when i closed the flash slightly, when it's about to snap shut, then take a picture, the flash will fire (at random though.)

Any suggestions?

1. My school ets us have Canon Ae-1s. Google to find out how hard that shit sucks compared to the XTi.
2. Try manually releasing the pop flash, then switch to the mode that allows you to command it to fire the flash. Fire. If it works, then try on all settings on all modes. Goodluck1

OP here, I've tried to manually pry it open and see if that would work, which it did not.

It might be interesting to know that when I switched to a mode that would allow me to manually pull up the flash, I held my finger over the hood and pressed the button to release the flash. I allowed the flash to come up just ever so slightly, and took a picture, and it flashed.

Then I allowed the flash to come up slightly more, and it worked. This method worked until the flash came about halfway to its fully erect (haha.) position.

Slowly raising it up all the way doesn't work either. I recharged the batteries, reset to defaults, etc. Putting an actual flash in the shoe works works, its just the internal that's no-go.

I don't really need this, it's just bugging me. I'll complain like a pansy to the tech dept at my school, and hopefully don't get fined for something I didn't do.

when i said manually open, i meant the button. NEVER open it by hand, you can fuck the spring/ motor way the fuck up.

Tried that as well. Oh well, don't need it anyways because it sucks.

last ditch effort. take a sander, looks like a saw thing, from your schools woodshop class, then sand off the serial numbers, and give them another, brand new one, with the same numbers hand chiseled in. shouldnt take more then the rest of the semester. good night guys
