F/2 was typical for a top-end model of the time, and lots of models had larger sensors than we would see in a point and shoot today: a 2/3" sensor, half the size of a Four-Thirds (4/3" made suitable for printing in ads) sensor. The G2 has a 1/1.8" sensor, smaller, and typical even for today, but it gave good output. F/2.8 is typical max aperture now. >>225503
What, lol megapixels? Four is enough for most things, and I'd bet the G2 has about the same amount of noise and DR as the G9.
I'd post examples, but I don't have any I can get to ATM.
Also ergonomics are more important than image quality, any day. I handled a G9 in a store and there's no way I would want to shoot with that.
