I have a friend who has just picked up this 120 format camera. Apart from the expected ageing it seems to be in good order. They are keen to use it, but we're wondering about the part marked out with the arrow and how it goes together or where that piece goes.

I know there are some film buffs and fans of old cameras and medium format, so I was hoping someone would know.

Thanks

i dunno, a light seal or maybe the plate for holding the film in the right spot or something?

There are two viewfinder windows. I'll get another shot of it then if that helps.

Apparently it takes 6x9 and 6.5x6.5 and that is why it needs two windows. I think that previous poster was right.

I'm not talking about the viewfinders... the two windows are there for portrait and landscape orientations. on the rear of the camera, on the film door, there should be at least one window through which you can see the little numbers on the backing paper of the film.
