hey /p/!
I know it's a lot to ask of 4channers, but be a bit patient with this anon. I'm very new to photography - its a hobby I would like to take to a more serious level. So I'm looking into buying a good camera.

Would a Canon REBELXTKIT4 EOS 350D Digital Rebel be a good buy? I'm looking into it and it's cut down on the price, to boot. What's good, what's not good, etc?

Thanks for your help.

be careful with the decision to buy an slr and understand that there not like point and shoots. there clunky and a pain to get use to using so be sure that what your gonna use it for is worth it. cannon rebel is pretty much the standard intro body. any version will be almost the same so if you wanna make it cheaper you can look for a rebel xt. they are pretty similar to the higher end cameras except smaller in the hand (which can be a pain), lighter and a little more user friendly. believe it or not the lenses you use are almost more important than the body so be careful when shopping for lenses

Nikon D80?
Great camera which will be a lot cheaper since the D90 just got announced.

The XT's a good camera, and if you're on a budget it's the #1 camera I recommend.

So instead of the Rebel XT, you recommend...the rebel XT? Lolwut?

>they're clunky and a pain to get used to using, so be sure that what you're gonna use it for is worth it.
I disagree. Especially if you just leave the thing in one of the auto modes, it works just like an extremely fast, extremely high quality point & shoot.

I probably suck shit by /p/ but I really do love my rebel xt. I recommend it as well, fellow anon.

I have a Rebel XT and I have gotten fantastic shots out of it with the kit lens. I have a 50mm f/1.4 Prime and I have gotten professional looking portraits from it. Its really all about your technique, discretion on lighting and the lens. More so than the body.

I was in your position ~6mo. ago. I bought the XT and I don't regret it. It's super cheap now and is still just as awesome a camera as it was when it cost $800. Buy it.

Got this camera, very pleased with it.

But the kit lens left me wanting more, so I replaced it with a mII 28-105mm.

My first SLR, I bought it when it was $800... it's a good, sturdy little camera, compatible with great lenses, nice image quality and lightweight. :)
