E-500 Geese
Hey /p/ I'm new to this whole photo thing and just wanted to ask a question. I have a Olympus Evolt E-500, pretty good camera fun to take pics with ( not so great at night though). I'm looking for new lenses do other lenses ( nikon, canon, sigma, etc) fit? Or can I ONLY get ones from olympus?

2. look for lens mount;
3. ???;
4. profit!

Look online, you can get adapters for most common lens types. Only problem is that you'll lose autofocus functionality.

You can't use Canon or Nikon lenses, but you're not limited to just Olympus.

The Olympus dSLRs use what's known as the Four Thirds mount. This is a new "standard" lens mount that Olympus and a few others are trying to push in the hopes that, by working together, they can gain enough momentum to level the playing field against Canon and Nikon (each of which has their own completely incompatible lens mount system). So search for Four Thirds-compatible lenses.

I would bet a nickel that Sigma and Tamron and the other third-party lens makers make 'em. I know Leica makes a few, since they've signed on with the Four Thirds people, too. Probably others I'm not remembering, too.

so they don't use OM mount any more?

I've got a few damn nice OM mount lenses I bought from someone who didn't know what they were. Damn.

Nope. A quick google search shows me an $80 adapter you can get, but you'll have to manually focus and meter in stop-down mode and whatnot. It just lets you physically connect, doesn't interlink with it.

I don't much care for 4/3 system, myself. Smaller-than-APS-C sensors and no hope of any different sizes. And I like the 2x3 aspect ratio, which 4/3 eschews for 4x3.

I'm sorry but these threads are absolute bullshit.

Same thing with the guy who posted the E-330 thread.

If you really have this camera, take a photo of /p/ with it.

Makes me think Olympus is gay enough to post baiters on here.

Wait.. what? Why wouldn't someone have Olympus DSLR?

So you're seriously putting forth the theory that Olympus paid a shill to start a thread whose eventual conclusion was basically "Well, Olympus cameras have a shit sensor, but at least the selection of lenses is crappy"?
