the right dslr Anonymous
well, since christmas is coming, i've decided to get a dslr, but which one? it's hard to decide when all your friends are nikon fanatics, so what's your opinion /p/?

i'm looking for excellent photo quality, fast shutter speed, easy to use functions.

(my price range is up to $800 and i'm a beginner with it)
>> Anonymous
A Nikon D80 and then you can borrow shit from your friends and get help.
>> Anonymous
Pardon my asking, but are you a beginner with photography in general, or just with digital?
>> Anonymous
>>95772
If a n00b then get a good point and shoot like a Powershot G9 because a dslr will be a waste.

If someone experienced get whatever dslr your comfortable with and weight the differences between systems and try to not spend much on the body, try looking at used bodys.

just with dslrs, really.

get a used D50/D70 or a canon XT/XTi. or one of the other brands that i dont really pay that much attention to.

Get a Sony and then Butterfly will love you and be your BFF. <3

D40 is pretty solid and you can pick it up for 500 bucks fairly easily. You then have 300 to spend on accessories.

SB400 flash and 55-200 vr lens come to mind. I know it's common and what everyone's doing, but for a beginner, you can't go wrong.
>> Anonymous
>>95794
id rather a used D50
>> Anonymous
>>95795
Besides the obvious AF problem, why? I purchased my d40 realizing that i'm a beginner photographer, and that I'd be upgrading my body later down the road. I would have purchased a used d50, but I couldn't find one for cheap enough to justify not getting a lens with it.

But if you can get it for less, then go for it.
>> Anonymous
>>95797
D50 has better high ISO performance too. the fact it can AF on non AF-S lenses will probably give it more time before you feel like you need to upgrade compared to a D40.
>> Anonymous
OP here, anyone know where i could get a used d50 for cheap besides ebay?

i was considering a d40, but i hear changing the ISO and white balance is hard. that sucks. i'd be incredibly bothered by that.

Here. this is EXACTLY what you should get.

rebel xt = 450 dollars.

50mm 1.8 canon lens=$85

18-55mm 3.5-5.6mm image stabilized canon lens=$175

this will come out to around $710 dollars. You then buy yourself a good memory card pay tax and whatnot.

end up paying $800 dollars.

Have a fantastic dslr with great beginning range and capabilities, with some of the best bang for your buck lenses on the market. You will match the quality of bodies and lenses four times as expensive as yours.

also, it's not out yet, but the 55-250mm image stabilized canon is about to release is supposed to be pretty good, and not very expensive either.

(prices from amazon.)

D80 with a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8

Mid range zoom with a fast aperture. All a beginner needs.

18-200 sucks balls, the sacrifices outweigh the benefits. Worst purchase i have ever made, the 18-70 kit lens is much much better optically.
>> OPFOR !8vKpfCqy8A
>>95842
I was debating on getting that 18-200 lens for awhile now but if it sucks to the kit lens...
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>95844

It's a compromise lens. No other ways to describe it. One of the main reason why i hate Ken Rockwell and think he's a complete hack was his undying recommendation of this lens. Me, being a complete noob to digital nodded and paid a premium for it.

Optically the 18-70 is both sharper and faster. the 18-70 goes to 4.5 at at 70 where as the 18-200 goes to 4.5 at about 35mm.

The distortions at the wide end of the 18-200 are very noticeable on straight lines and beyond 120-135mm it's soft as hell.

Stepped down to f/5.6 - f/8 it's quite sharp, but is still trumped by the 18-70... which is why i don't get why Nikon hasn't made more of them or installed VR on the 18-70. I really regret selling it.

What would you have primarily shot with it? mid range? telephoto?
>> OPFOR !8vKpfCqy8A
>>95846
I was going to use it as my primary lens, mostly mid range use, and sell my 18-70mm. I had made up my mind and was going to buy it after reading Ken's review and talking to another photographer.

DAmn you KEN! you made me waste money! Also your C class Mercedes is shit compared to my S500...pfft you have to turn the key? I press a button.

>>95847

wow i'm glad i got to you in time. Crockwell's review is bullshit. His bias is simply ridiculous. The Tamron 17-50 is a damn good lens. The fast aperture is awesome, the only problem for you is that it may be too short for you. OPtically it shits on the 18-200 and can double as a portrait lens with the 2.8 and 50mm (75mm equiv) on the long end.

>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>95884
I thought you were my slashfiction writer.

Anyway its the right way round which means its either not a mirror shot, he shooped it or its a mirror watch.

i know the last exist as mirror clocks but never seen a watch version.

Also he looks like a massive fucking fag.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>95885

Aha! So I have the official go ahead. Very well, I shall begin work on the slash fiction as soon as I can. Hopefully I'll be able to complete it before I'm shut down by the government censors for it being risqué for public viewing.

If you look at the watch again you'll notice that from his point of view, the watch is upside down when he wants to read it. Only other people can see the time on his wrist clearly. So what's that all about?

You are looking for the wrong things in a DSLR. Compacts have excellent photo quality, fast shutter speed, and easy to use functions.

If you are asking the /p/ board what DSLR to get, you really don't need one. Go buy a A720is Powershot for $200. Spend $600 on a couple of 8 balls of coke. Go to a strip club. Make alot of new friends. Take pictures of your new friends and post those.

Those will be better, more interesting shots than you'll ever get from your $800 DSLR kit and taking pictures of your cat.
