I'm in need of some advising, /p/.
I've just started a photography course at college and I'm in need of a decent, fairly cheap SLR camera so I don't have to use the Jurassic age cameras the college will provide. I've got a limit of around £200-£250, and it doesn't have to be the greatest camera ever, just something that will take fairly decent shots.

Pic kinda related, I've heard some good things about it.

nothing wrong with the old cameras at college. usually they're not that old anyway, pentax K1000s just seem old. My suggestion is if this is just a one-off course, don't buy anything cause it's just going to gather dust after you finish the course. just use the school's cameras. they can't be that bad, save for things like no auto-focus, etc. But that's not really bad.

the e-10 is very very old... probably older than the cameras they will have at school. also, at 4mpxl, it doesn't make the best of prints.

Get a K100D or a 400D or something. Should be cheap enough. At least body-wise. Dunno if they'll have respective lenses at your school.

This. Also, you ask for an SLR but post a dSLR picture. If your class uses SLRs, you really do not want to come over with a digital camera. Just use your school's camera, it's composition and subject that matters anyhow, not teh megapixulz.

OP here.

I figure I could just use the college cameras, but I'd prefer my own just so I don't have to go through the hassle of securing one if I want to do a shoot outside my lesson block.

why isnt it pro level anymore??

pro is a short term for professional gear fag, if your making lots of moneys from photography you want the best gear possible, even if its only a 5% improvement. they use their cameras most days and its their livelyhood so every shot counts, if them or their gear balls up they have to get a real job.

Shit's from 2000, almost $2,000.00 for a 4 MP 4:3 DSLR with a non removable lens. I doubt any pros are using anything like this now.

That is one awesome looking camera. I wish cameras looked like this again. More edges, less curves.
