Protip time!
1) Resize your images to a reasonable size before posting them - Nobody wants to wait for your 2.63mb picture to load so they can critique it, and I'm fairly certain that Mooty-kins doesn't like having giant monstrosities devouring his bandwidth.
2) Invest in any sort of general beginner's guide to Photography - They only cost $25, and contain a wealth of information on handy things like exposure, depth of focus, aperture, lighting, the rule of thirds etc. You can easily convey a concept with point and shoot, but your pictures will rarely be as good as they could be if you spent 5 seconds fiddling around with your camera's settings.
3) The picture isn't anything special, and you overdid the adjustments, losing all of the detail of the tree into shadows, making the background look empty. Try again under ideal lighting.

On the plus side, I will say that it's better then most point and shoot pictures. Be persistent at getting your pictures under the conditions you want them to be at, and try taking pictures from interesting perspectives, rather then straight-on.
