Beyond 18-55mm Anonymous
I have owned a stock canon xti kit (camera w/ lens 18-55 and bag)

I want to pickup a remote shutter, get the bottom camera grip/battery expansion, and also a zoom lens. I have around $500 to spend on equipment or the lens. can anyone recommend a cheap camera site or a suitable lens for me?

*sigh*
I have two rechargeable canon batteries which would fit into the grip/battery expansion (whatever the fuck it is); troll or not!

Why do you want a battery grip? To look fancy?
And why a remote shutter (although I have one).. I use mine maybe like once or twice a month when doing long exposures. You can pick up a cheap one on ebay...for maybe $10.

I assume you mean a telephoto lens. If your budget is $500, then you won't get a good one (unless it is used- and even then it's tricky). If you need another medium zoom lens, the 18-55 IS is much better than the XTi kit lens. The Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 EX DG is only 300 dollars but it is too soft at anything wider than f/3.5.

Invest in a GOOD tripod/head since you want to pick up a remote shutter, thatll probally cost you 150 or more.
You can probally pick up a canon 28-135 IS lens (if you want IS and USM) or the tamron 17-50 used for around 300 bucks
As for the battery grip, wail untill you get a big ass telephoto lens that you might need the extra grip for.

That is a very good lens.

If OP had a Nikon, he could get an 80-200 f/2.8 ED used for less than $500.

Good but old. Sold mine for $550. Sharp photos yes, slow focus yes, heavy as brick yes, cant hold for 1 hr yes, tripod collar no.

It superb, but lacking...

No tripod collar is lose on a lens that big. Even my 180/2.8 is a pain in the ass, and it's smaller and lighter than the 80-200.

long exposures
and the grip seats both my batteries so I don't have to change-out.

The Tam 17-50 looks good, but I kind of need more focal length.
>>207252

I have several tripods i use from my film and my xl2.

>>207265
I know; could have, would have, should have bought a nikon.

You seem to really want that grip... Why don't you stop trying to justify it and buy it already?

any good camera sites to buy from online?

I've always gotten all of my camera equipment from amazon.com, i don't know if they're necessarily cheaper but their service is good. I've never had a problem with not receiving something.

B&H, Amazon, Newegg, Adorama

And for $1000 more you can get one that's lighter, faster, has VR, and a tripod collar. You get what you pay for.

Lacking in terms of tripod collar. Everything on mine works fine, love the colors, the contrast, just damn heavy to lug around all day.

For a decent price, then sigma 70-300 is nice. (~$200)
I had one, bought it off ebay, used it like a workhorse, sold it on craigslist.

Fair enough, but you could have gotten a Pentax DA 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 ED AL IF Lens for about $400 and gotten a HUGE increase in image quality and bokeh.

THe Pentax limited lenses are significantly better than the Sigma zooms.

for one, it's not a limited lens

for two, it's a fucking pentax when the guy is using a nikon

for three, superzooms = always failure
