My friend has a problem. The LCD on her Sony DSC W50 stopped turning on, but the camera still takes pictures. Her warranty is only valid in Canada but she's in the US for the 4 months.

Since she is visiting a foriegn place, having a camera to take lots of pictures would be nice.

A lot of her pictures are dark, blurry, and have to be taken multiple times for one to come out "good"...

What would /p/ do?

I suggested she get a lower-mid tier camera and give it to her parents afterwards, but she said they wouldn't be interested. (Pictured is the PowerShot A430, it's tangently related because it's on sale this week, maybe she would want it as her "for now" camera if she goes that route)

can't you just use the view finder? Sure, you don't get a preview right away, and it's probably about 90% accurate compared to the screen. But anyone with a steady hand could take clear pictures. In this case, just make sure to always use flash... I guess. But if they mostly come out dark, would that be a problem with that particular camera and not her?

If it is the camera, maybe your friend can borrow a film camera and just buy some film and go take pictures. But if the camera works perfectly fine, then I'd just use the view finder.

Where's the sale? Is it a US merchant?
