EOS 350D in China? Anonymous
My mother is going to China and i thinking about asking her to buy me a EOS 350D for me.
What is the price for a camera like that in china?
In sweden it cost around 1k$ witn the standarn 18-55mm objective.

Just get a 10d and save some scratch.

It's around the 7000 RMB mark with the kit lens. But that was the last time i checked in July, before the release of the 400D

Huh? The 20D is vastly superior to the 10D, the 350D's improvements in resolution and low-light noise are worth the minor annoyances of the "prosumer" body (no thumbwheel, for example.)

It's really not worth it to buy a 10D.

PS: There are both export and import duties on many things, including electronics/camera gear. It is rarely cost-effective to import a camera....not to mention, you have little guarantee that you're actually buying a new 350D and not a "reconditioned" one; retail fraud is a massive problem in China.

Dude that stuff about import duties gets boring real fast.

I bought my Nikon D70s from Shanghai last christmas with a whole bunch of gear like bag, memory card, tripod etc... so if any customs officer checked it would have looked like i boght completely new gear. But since it's personal and not for commericial purposes, they did not give a fuck.

Then recently i wrote a thread about how my mother brought back for me from Shanghai again 2 lenses and a speedlite a total of around 11,000 RMB worth of stuff...guess what? they were in the original packaging which looked new and Customs again did not do shit and did not care about import tariffs or duties or watever.

I'm sorry to get worked up, but have you even purchased anything expensive whilst overseas? Stop it please, just stop.

So to the OP, double check here and see if your mother is going to a reputable place. I went to a place in Shanghai, one of the main Digital MArkets and went to a nikon retailer with proper accreditation and all that jazz. Feel free to call up Canon and ask which retailers they accredit.

Don't listen to Rawr, it's VERY cost effective to get a camera in China provided it's a genuine retailer which provides international warranty (mine did). My complete setup now =

The lenses were roughly 25% cheaper than prices in the States and Australia...but the accessories such as tripod, CF card and batteries is where it was cheapest... i think around 40% was what i noticed.

THe only real danger is that does your mum know anything about cameras at all? or have anyone who can help her out? My mother only did okay because she went to the same store where i purchased my gear earlier and the owners remembered my dad and i being there (dad's a friendly guy who stirkes up conversations with anyone)
