I'm too fond of swapping lenses to be pleased with a screw-mount, I think.

I wouldn't mind one

It's not as bad as you'd think, once you get used to it, you can switch out quick enough.

i don't get it. someone explain the appeal of this camera to me.

is it the amount of screw mount lenses available? european mystique for a budget price? it just looks like a 1959 slr to me.

Almost all M42 mount cameras are shit to use. With the older ones, at best, you've got a dim-ass viewfinder. At worst, you've got a dim-ass viewfinder, no meter or a half-broken meter that takes mercury batteries, 1 to 1/500th speeds on the shutter.
The jappo copies that came later, some were great, but the great ones are expensive as fuck and the usable ones were cheaply made.

The good thing about the bessaflex is that it's well-specced, fairly well-built, cheap and parts are plentiful(since it's based off their useitforeverything body anyway)
If you don't already own M42 lenses, you're not really in the target audience. OTOH, if you enjoy manual cameras with that vintage feel, it's not like you another choice from nikon, canon or pentax...

Screw mount sucks. I have half a dozen M42 lenses and I think the best way to use them is:

1. Get a K, EF, FD or 4/3-mount SLR (of DSLRs, Pentax cameras are the best because they provide focus confirmation and IS).
2. Get a few cheap M42 adapters and rear caps and put them on most used lenses.
3. ???
4. Profit!

the appeal is 1) i have a shitload of screw mount lenses. 2) everything's mechanical, so if the batterys dry out all u lose is metering. 3) from the reviews ive read, its supposed to have a bright ass viewfinder. 5) it goes up to 1/2000 spd
