Wide angle / landscape Anonymous
Hey /p/

What are some good Nikon wide angle lenses?
I'm looking at buying one but I'm on a relatively low budget

Or, what lense would you suggest for Landscape Photography?

Thanks

Anything cheaper? without loosing massive amounts of quality?
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.

Nope. But then you don't need an ultrawide to shoot landscapes - a kit lens and some imagination are more than enough.

Yeah i said it wrong, i was wondering what cheap wide angle lenses there are,

And

Whats a good lense for shooting landscape.

Thanks for the info!

>kit lens
I find my 18-135 kit lens;
shooting at 18 - perfect for landscapes.

I went the other way with my D80 and got the 18-55mm VR and 55-200mm VR lenses, since im so strapped for cash it was $100 cheaper than the 18-200mm VR lense.

Also

Is the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D lense worth the $120 bucks?

Don't get the 18-200 VR, its awful imo.

>Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D lense worth the $120
And yes, its a lovely piece of glass.

Also what flash should i get?

I've been leaning towards the SB-400 because of it being cheap, compact and versatile

Or am I better off investing in something like an SB-600
>> Anonymous
>>178888
It's little more than an upgraded pop-up flash. Get the SB-600.
>> Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH
>>178888
Depends what your using it for
You will rarely need a flash for landscape photography;
What did you have in mind?
SB-600 is abit of an overkill just for the odd family event.

I wouldn't say overkill. It's pretty good.

Yeah dont get me wrong, its fantastic!

OP, why do you need a flash? What are you going to be shooting?
>> Anonymous
>>178949
Flashes are always useful.

>>178970
Maybe for you, but not for everyone. OP is clearly suffering from the "I need all types of gear" syndrome.

He's got enough, though going for a few primes is what I would've advised instead, since he needs them anyway if he's going to be shooting in low light and they're better than some mediocre zooms.

OP: What are you going to be shooting? What *sort* of photographs do you want to take? Not what subjects or genre, but what do you want them to be like? What's your budget?

A good flash is better than a fast prime when taking photos in low light.

Taken at 14mm (I think, check the exif) with a 2x crop on a e-500. Kit lenses can work alright considering I get some nasty cro mabs on this lens.

Bullshit. Neither right nor wrong, simply bullshit.

Some people's favored aesthetic would mean a flash would work better for them. Other people's favored aesthetic would mean a fast lens would work better for them. Some people's working method would mean a flash would work better for them. Other people's favored working method would mean a fast lens would work better for them. Some people's subjects won't be disturbed by a flash, while some people's will.

Stop making stupid blanket pronouncements, A. B, most people aren't skilled enough to use flash creatively, and no, reading the Strobist and copying that guy's style is not using flash creatively. It screams "unoriginal, standard, in vogue, magazine editorial." C, most people shooting in low light are either shooting candid pictures of people or concerts, neither of which a flash is usually suited for in most people's working styles.

OP here,

I'm going to be shoot inside quite a bit for my school magazine each month, so there might be some low light events and what not, thats why i was thinking of the SB-400,

And the odd family event aswell, so there is no big reason for anything else larger that the SB-400,

Would be great to hear your opinion.

Thanks

Best bet would be the 400 then, so you can save money, and later sell & upgrade to a 600/800. Wont take to long! :)

Thanks for all the help Martin!

S'ok
I've done the same regarding the flash.
Got enough to buy a 600, but debating whether to get an extra £80 for the 800.. which could take a while.

>>179141

do it faggot.

think how much happier you'll be in the long run.
>> Anonymous
or you can buy the sb 600 in the first place and not have a fucking useless 400

idiots

Do you need as much power as possible? Do you need to be able to set off other flashes? Do you want to do ZOMFG EXTREME close-ups? If not, get the SB-600.
