/p/, what forums do you go to when you actually want to have intelligent discussions about photography with intelligent photographers and no one asks if they should buy a nikon d40?

you said intelligent people, i am ingelligent. However i can act as I wish here and I do so.

Talking to people IRL is still the best thing (esp as you get to see expressions, such as me laughing every time people argue with me)

No such place. Every board is the same for photography. It's gear gear gear and fanboys. At least here you've got some brutal honesty on photos amongst the trolling and arguments over which camera makes your dick look biggest

This board usually has some of the best feedback as far as critiques on your work. People here are honest. If your shit sucks they will fucking tell you as opposed to other places where every time you post something you get 10 people who all say the same shit like "That's really COOL!!! :)" and give you no real feedback.

Truth. If I wanted someone to tell me how sharp and great my lenses were or ask for 100% crops of pictures of my cat and random stuff on my desk so they could pixel peep it to compare to the million and one other test samples he's seen of the lens they probably already own while giving meaningless feedback I could go to any other board.

Every photography board on the internet breaks down into similar elements. The annoying:
>> What's the best camera I can get for less than $3.50?
>> Should I buy a UV filter for my lens?
>> I'm new at all of this, critique this picture I took of my cat.
>> Hey, check out this photo I snapped while in a moving car. Isn't it cool?
>> Gear gear gear.
>> Why should I buy (current excellent camera setup) when for the remainder of human existence they will keep improving the models?
>> B&W sucks - check out these photos that suck in B&W.
>> B&W rules - check out these photos that are awesome in B&W.

At least here you get brutally honest critique. HOWEVER, the people here are also fucking idiots (myself included). You can post an award winning photo by a renowned photographer that won't be recognized by the majority of the people here. That photo will get critiqued by some of the worst photographers in the world and the consensus will be that it sucks until some of the more astute point out that the board has just been trolled.

In short, have patience and thick skin.

It would be more merciful if you just let something fall on me and kill me than draw out the suffering with your posts.

Instead when you do up your docs for whatever you're making no one else can understand them and 10 times more people die from that than if you'd just made something that didn't work.
