So I've been looking at alot of DSLR's lately, and with my limited budget, I have chosen to purchase a Nikon D40.

This will be my first DSLR.

I just wonder, would this camera be up to my type of photography?
I mainly take photos at concerts or local shows, low light, constant movement.
There can be more noise with night/low light photos at high ISO's
so that's what I'm worried about really, the low light and constant movement.
Any suggestions?

I do nature photography as well, but I don't think that will be a problem with this camera.

don't even consider the d60.

If you're going to spend a bit more money get a deal on a D80, stores should be trying to get rid of their stock on D80's so there should be some savings there.

Other than that, the D40 will be fine. Just look into getting a faster lens, something that can open up to f/2.8 would be nice. The 50mm f/1.8 and f/1.4 won't autofocus on the d40 (or the d60, but will on the d80) which is a shame, you can still use it though. The f/1.8 is a fantastic low-cost "low light" lens.

Macro is about the lens, not the camera. You'll need to get a macro (or as nikon calls it, "micro") lens.

D60s are pointless.
I have a D40 and I use it on a day-to-day basis. Nikons are obviously known for their good image quality and hey, I wouldn't go past ISO 800 on this camera but I mean for like $499 it's not that bad.

But agreed with above, invest in a f/2.8 if you think it's necessary - but I'd say to go a show first, maybe one you won't like that much and check to see if it's really necessary to get the lower f/stop haha.
