Really impressive shots from a "mere bridge-camera". Well done.

Shoot full manual, shutter as long as you can get it (not bulb)

Use a moderate wide angle lens e.g. 28mm or 35mm, this then gives you some leeway as far as composition is concerned. Set the aperture between f8 and f11. set the focus ring to infinity, and switch it off autofucus (it'll only waste your time).
With regards to iso speeds, i choose ISO 100 mainly.

For heavens sake make sure you have a good, solid tripod.

Have a piece of thick black card with you.

Trigger the shutter, with the card over the lens, guestimate when certain fireworks are going to explode and tremove the card for a short time to capture those ones, then replace it. (you can usually just make out the big rockets going up). Try to build up layers of colour, so the bottom, middle and top of your image all have fireworks exploding.

Forgot to add some of mine (28mm f2.8 prime @ f11, 30s exposure on my Nikon D80)

Dammit. WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE POSTED THIS ADVICE LAST WEEK. That would've made my shots of the recent fireworks I went to a lot better.
>> phesarnion
>>69342
cause i was taking those shots last week. (well, yesterday and the day before)
They're at the british fireworks championships in plymouth, devon.

That sounds like the greatest event in the world. If only they had puppies.
>> phesarnion
>>69370
oh it is.. each company is required to put on a 10 minute display, and this year there were 6 companies, over two nights. Why puppies? are we talking puppies strapped to rockets, puppies on sticks, toffee covered puppies, or just puppies walking around?

The black card is a nice touch!
