Hello /p/

I bought a Canon Powershot A95 a couple years ago to get started on photography. I wish to replace my equipment with a DSLR eventually, but recently I came across the Conversion Lens Adapter LA-DC52D for my camera, anyone know much about it? Will I be able to use any lenses with it that will be useable with a DSLR?

Nope. Sorry.

The little adaptamajig just lets you use crappy little screw on lenses and filters. It's worth getting the adapter for the ability to use filters (and you can bring those filters over to your dSLR if you get lenses with a 52mm thread. E.g., most of Canon's lower end lenses, except for the 18-55 kit lens).

The extra lenses you can get for it are a 2x telephoto extender and a .5x wide angle. They're not that exciting, and they're not that great optically. Better to just take a few more steps closer or farther, respectively, if the A95's built-in zoom isn't enough for the shot you want.

if you wanted a camera compatible with dlsr ( or slr) lenses you should have bought a dslr.

I didn't, which is why I simply bought a P&S. It would've. be nice to try around with lenses, though.

I see, thanks for the answer!

AC, you should know there's more to focal length than just getting something in the shot.

True, but he's still right.

The word is that the wide angle lens is nice and the telephoto is a little underwhelming, as it only doubles your current optical (it would bring my 4x to an 8x)

Here is a link to the Wide angle:

Amazon also sells the telephoto and macro adapters.

I myself have never used those lenses but the macro and wide angle have decent reviews. The biggest gripe with them is that they partially block the camera's flash.

Yup. They also block the optical viewfinder. You're forced to use the screen.

I've never once used the optical viewfinder on my A95. Why deal with
1. Parallax issues
2. Zoomed framing issues
3. the fact that you have to hold the camera at eye level

when you can have a through-the-lens, 100% framing on an LCD you can tilt and swivel for whatever angle you want?

Turning off the screen saves a lot of power and improves shutter response.

Huh, you're right.

I mean, I knew about the battery life thing, but I didn't realize it sped up the shutter response. Wish I'd known that before.

(On the camera i had before this one, it was noticeably slower if you had the screen turned off)
