Hi /p/,

Can those cheap ebay wireless transmiters from hong kong fire one of this or is it better to get a pc cord?

I actually own one of those triggers, but is a Phottix PT-04 TM. Unfortunately i had just ordered 1 receiver... so later i'll order some more and just wanna make sure it would work fine with the vivitar 285 hv.

your paying like $15 dollars more for the Cactus name stamped n the hong kong trigger.

I bought a set for $22 last month for my 580 EX II from this seller:
http://stores.ebay.com/yikeworld

I received the item in the mail in exactly one week from them, hong kong to michigan, usa.

If you don't need TTL dedication, just use regular optical slaves. They're extremely cheap and work fine.

Just don't get the Wein Peanut slaves. They don't work with the 285hv.

yes they do

Not with new ones. I just bought two of them for my 285s and they fired about 1-2% of the time.

Thats just the peanut being a peanut. I use mine on a 4 inch cord and make kinda of a flower shaped reflector aroudn the sensor and point it at my subject, works 95% of the time.

I tried all that shit and still couldn't get it to reliably fire. For $20 I expect better especially considering I got the radio triggers for $10 more than 2 peanuts and they work 99% of the time in any lighting situation.

I had a lot of problems with mine for probably the first 500 shots, but for the past few months, they've worked without fail, but then i only use them indoors in subdued lighting :/
I probably would be happier with radio triggers so I don't have to use the onboard to trigger my 383 super.

I use PocketWizards at school with Profoto and they definitely own the shit out of everything else. If only they didn't cost a zillion dollars each.

zillion? They're a touch pricy at $200 CND, but not brutal compared to other camera equipment.

That's way more than a touch pricey, especially considering how much goes into making one.

actually, I'm having some problems with these triggers.

I'm pressing the "test" button on the transmitter, and the receiver is blinking in return on my sunpak 383, and 430EX, but neither flashes are triggering.

I bought the V2s which should work with both I thought.

Anyone have a clue?

dont the ebay triggers have misfire issues?
>> Anonymous
>>231026
yes, but the false triggering is worth the $200+ tradeoff.

I look at the ebay or cactus (or what ever other name they put on the PT-04 trigger) trigger i purchased as a temporary trigger that will get me by for a while as I learn off camera flash technique. Later on down the road, if i continue to use the ebay remote, I will probably invest in more quality triggers.

and you need 2

that's $400

at least 2.

The only time I've had trouble with my 285's triggering with the V2s is when the batteries in the flash are very low.

the transmitters off eBay usually use a common European frequency of 433MHz. instead of a US frequency, 344-354MHz.

i've often wondered if that contributes to their misfiring. if maybe the 433MHz range is used for something else over here.

also, on that note, if you buy Pocket Wizards off eBay make sure they were made for the US. Euro PktWzds won't work with US PktWzds.

and cheap optical slaves are great, especially since you can fire them off any camera's built in flash. but they're useless at concerts, weddings, etc, or anywhere else where other people will be taking flash photos.

check that you have the little blue switched set up to the correct channel or the trigger wont fire the slaves. they need to be in the same positions on the triggers as the slaves.

>>231134

ive often thought about that. maybe some sort of interference? on a side note i want to see someone using these slaves at a gig im shooting at the same time and im going to fire my trigger off at the same time to be an utter cunt.

Well, yeah. One for the camera plus one for each flash.

Honestly, they haven't had much competition up until now. It seems that the new alienbees triggers will basically be as good (albeit with lower range) though, so that seems to be a good thing.
