Hey /p/, I'm getting one of these (in the picture) but I need a good camera to go along with it, preferably something capable of taking extremely "quick" (high speed photography capabilities on a regular consumer camera would be a +) photos.

Out of these compatable cameras, what should I buy?

Nikon D1, D2, D50, D200 etc.
Nikon D80 and D70s
Nikon Coolpix (includes required Nikon serial cable SC-EW3)
Canon EOS 1D, 20D, 10D, 5D, D60, D30 etc. (Canon 3-pin connector)
Canon Digital Rebel (Canon cable RS-60E3)
Olympus E-10/E20 etc (Olympus cable RM-CB1)
Contax 645
Sony DSC-F707 digital camera
Sony DSC-F828, V3, R1, etc. digital cameras
Sony Alpha DSLR-A100

Everything leads me to believe the Canon 20D is the best bet for price and function

Not a canon expert but the D200 is very good for AF tracking and High FPS, The d80 is a slightly handicapped version but quite a bit slower FPS.

though the less you spend on the camera body the more you have free to buy better faster or brighter lenses.

Are Canon camera's really worth it in the long run, or are they an upgrade fest that turns out to cost to much

Buy into a system that does what you need it to do *now* and you won't have to upgrade until it breaks or your needs change.
Continuous upgrading is because of epenis get/G.A.S.

I mostly ask based on lenses, I don't know if Canon upgrades it's lens format like every year or something, I want a camera I can keep for a long time and not have to worry about the newest lenses for the same brand suddenly not working with my old camera (at least for a few years)

Canon has been using the EF mount since 1987 I believe, maybe a little longer. So 20 years so far for the current system.

Nikon makes all their camera to work with ALL their lens since 1950s, and they all will mount and work to some extend.

Pick your choice.

early 70s, really
AI conversion is cheap and fairly easy but it's not good to get people to think they can stick whatever on their new dslr.

I know that the D40 wasn't listed in the options, but in case some people were reading this and hadn't done the research yet, the Nikon D40 only allows for manual focus on the older Nikon lenses because the camera lacks the autofocus pin and relies on the motor of the lens.

OP, is there any particular reason the Pentax K10D was left out?

The time machine is a little nifty programable shutter release box, it allows for time delayed shots at various intervals, trip sensor triggered shots (acoustic, ballistic, laser trips, vibration trips, you name it - it has sensors available for it), various other things akin to that idea, it's a very specialized thing and I guess the people who make it just don't make adapters for the Pentax K10D.

I'm sort of new to DSLR cameras by the way, I've been sticking to old SLR's (my yashica lens collection has grown to be rather huge). So this is where I'm making my "big jump" into Digital Photography (only for timelapse/etc type shots though where it would cost too much on film, film can never be replaced for normal Photography for me.).

What's the verdict?
>> Anonymous
Verdict is I'm buying a used Canon EOS 20D for around $600, only 4000 exposures - two lenses included. Am I ripping myself off?

What lenses?

Also for timelapse, you should check out the zigview.

18 - 55 mm Canon lens
75 - 300 mm Canon ultrasonic lens

Not really sure how great the lenses are, just know one is the normal kit lens and the other retails for about $150 maybe in stores used.

Op again, I've also purchased an electronic mount adapter for contax/yashica because of the ton of quality lenses I already have for my old yashica slr.

The zigview looks nifty, I'll think about it, but the time machine is a much more complex unit, and the zigview only has motion detection through the lens, where as the time machine has all the aforementioned (>>34229) sensors available.

Those are both bottom of the barrel lenses (mostly if not all plastic construction, bad optics). They'll be good as an introduction to photography but eventually you'll probably want to start picking up Canon 'L' series lenses. $600 is still a nice deal for the package though.

Get a Canon digital rebel XT. You won't regret it and it's highly upgradeable with tons of attachments. Gorgeous shots and really quick. My girlfriend is a photographer and has it fully loaded with everything godlike on it.

I'll probably never touch a cannon lens again actually, I have enough yashica ML's to last me, auto focus was never my thing anyways.

upgradeable? Well since all DSLR's have lenses flashes, battery grips etc, theres nothing special about the XT that makes it any different, in fact because of how small and light it is, the bigger lenses you put on it will make it unwieldly

Also the XTI is better, and the 20D is better than that (just for canon)
