Would be better if properly white balanced. Kinda like the green/orange contrast, just wish the whites were white instead of sickly yellow.

>White Balance Auto
What the shit kind of Auto white balance gets it THIS wrong?
>> Anonymous
>>239180
There's probably yellow light in the room and with no flash, it's more prominent. Did you ever think about that?
>> Anonymous
>>239180

lots do.. thats why you shoot RAW

canonfag here

canon never ever had good auto wb indoors, doesn't matter if you have a 1ds, 5d, 40d or rebel

they get confused very easily indoors

Another canonfag here. And seconded.

Canon's official explanation is that they're white balancing to match the "actual" colors in the room. I.e., if the tungsten lamps are throwing off orange light, white's gonna be a bit orange. But I think this explanation is bunk. I think they just suck at developing white balance software.

However! I also think that if you know what you're doing, you should be shooting raw anyway. So it doesn't really matter.

(Haven't tested how AWB works with my Nikon yet)

Enough of the shoe fetish. Just feel bad for not noticing the obvious white unbalance, and make sure you get it right next time. (lrn2lrn)

ugh, because white always has to be 0,0,0?

you don't have to have a perfect white to get a nice picture

oh wow, you can recite dpreview, congratulations

you must feel really smart now

i guess you enjoy posting that kind of thing

I believe you meant 255,255,255, but i agree.

white balance should actually be setting the Neutral Grey value. this leaves the blacks and whites alone for the most part

A good photo generally wont have ANY true whites, but can have values close to it. (if you're photographing a bright light source, then it will, but a white pair of shoes shouldnt be 255,255,255)

White balance is THE easiest thing to fix in post-processing. Even for JPEGs.
