opinion on Panasonic L-10 Anonymous
what's the general opinion of the Panasonic L-10?

i've looked for a long time and i think this offers the best out of the box experience out of every model i've compared

B&H has it right now for $1,000 for the kit and it comes with the Leica 14-50mm with IS

it's got dual mode AF in live view, along with the flip out screen, i think only 2 other cameras have a screen like that

10 MP, that's par for the course
good screen with live view
good kit lens by Leica, with IS
dual control wheels

Canon has the new XSi but for the same price, you only get the 18-55 IS kit lens, which sucks, the screen is also fixed

How serious do you plan to get with photography?

Panasonic = fail

If you have a budget of $1000 get a Sony A300 or A350 and a couple nice lenses. I know you say you don't want it, but unless you buy used or some shitty off brand (PANASONIC!) it's the best value on the market right now.

If you're willing to buy used, get a Pentax K10D. DO NOT buy a K10D new, since the price is over-inflated right now. You could go for a K20D, but they're over your budget.

i wanted to not say this in my first post because people will bawww over it

i want to buy one lens, do it right and be done with it

whatever/defeats the purpose of interchangeable lens/lol get a point and shoot

i'm sick of slow point and shoots, they all have shutter lag and are slow to operate, bad low light, no shallow depth of field

this kit gives me what i want: very good lens, live view and IS

Don't listen to these retards.

Comments like "4/3rds = fail" just smacks of Canikon faggotry.

I've shot with the L-10 and it's a nice, nice camera. It's got killer features and the four thirds system offers a couple of advantages that no one ever seems to bother to look at. Of course, there are disadvantages, too:

The smaller sensor (really, not THAT much smaller than APS sensors) is prone to a little more noise at higher ISOs. Typically this isn't an issue.

Smaller sensors have wider DOF. Unless you want megasmall DOF in your shots this comes in handy.

Light strikes smaller sensors at the edges more straight on, giving you inherently better performance at the edges of the glass.

You're not going to have the selection of lenses that Canon or Nikon have. That said, you can select from some killer Leica and Zuiko glass, which is awesome. You can get Olympus Zuiko kit lenses for fucking cheap as hell and they'll outperform any kit glass on the market.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
Essentially what you're looking for is a point and shoot with a somewhat bigger sensor and with a little more responsiveness. Which is not the most retarded idea passed around on /p/, but you will have to pay quite a premium for it.

Would I do this? Hell no, but it seems you've found what you want so stay off /p/ and just buy it. No other camera will satisfy your weird requirements, with the possible exception of the Sony R-1.

Sounds like this is the camera for you then. The Four Thirds system will provide all you need.

>Sony, i don't want a Sony

Why? It sounds like one of the new Sony cameras would be perfect for you, especially since they also have a flip screen...

Why the Sony/Minolta hate?

Smaller system, slightly weird control layouts on bodies, almost no technological innovation. In-body stabilization was Pentax's invention—or at least, they announced it first.
Yeah, yeah, Zeiss lenses, but Zeiss is kinda bullshit these days. As far as still photography, they mostly sit on their asses and try to convince you that Sonnar, Distagon, and Flektogon are sacred Eldar words for God's Own Lenses, even though some of their designs are in their third century. T* coating was a great addition, but that was 1980.

Do Zeiss make great lenses? Yes.
Do they make better lenses than Canon, Nikon, or Leica? Debatable.
Do they make the best lenses in the world overall? No.

CAD has pretty much leveled the playing field when it comes to optical design, the only thing left is to invent new materials and manufacture the current ones to more exacting standards. The modern lens game is just a question of how much money you are willing to throw at a certain design and how few compromises you are willing to make.

None of this is to say Sony makes bad SLRs or that Zeiss make bad lenses; I haven't used a Sony, and Zeiss' reputation didn't come from nowhere. I just think Sony has a lot of catching up to do, and they need to stop marketing with this HDNA bullshit. A DSLR is a serious tool, not a capture device for your motherfucking Bravia.

Sony sold me an external DVD writer which came with a broken smart cord USB connection. A year later they sent a new one and admitted they knew all along many cords were defective. Sony customer service sucks.

HDNA? Historical DNA or what?

I agree with pretty much all of what you said.
>> okto
High def+DNA+the same marketing engine that thought racism was the best way to sell white PSPs=HDNA.
"HD is in our DNA."

Sony needs to learn from Pentax's mistakes.
Consumers drive profits, but pros drive brand viability. People want to feel like they're buying pro gear even when they aren't (and don't need it, and should maybe be legally barred from owning it), so they need to see pros using it. Pros won't settle for a camera that takes good pictures but feels weird in your hands and places more emphasis on the HDMI port on the side than the AF speed or low-light metering ability.
I know I wouldn't trust my income or my career to Sony at this point. I'm not sure to be able to rent a Sony body/lens as reliably if mine breaks/gets stolen, I don't know if I can trust the camera in a rainstorm, I'm less likely to find a MemoryStick reader on a random computer than an SD or CF one, etc, etc, etc.

Honestly, I hope Sony figures it out (even though I HATE them as a company and have been boycotting them for years) for the same reason I hope Pentax does: competition means cheaper, better products for everyone.

The racisim advertising worked awesomely, they're japs, they love racisim.

>Pros won't settle for a camera that takes good pictures but feels weird in your hands and places more emphasis on the HDMI port on the side than the AF speed or low-light metering ability.

Strange you mention ergonomics as (in my certified always right oppinion) sony has the best, certianly at the consumer end. In a way the alpha team are trapped into their parents advertising, but if you consider sony's heratige in the video world, its not like their new to making god tier equipment.

I hate Sony as a company, but some of their products are extremely good. Unless you're willing to buy used there's really nothing else at the $600 price range that can compare to the A300.

My dad decided to get into DSLR photography recently and since he has a bunch of old Minolta lenses I had him buy an A300. He loves it, it cost a lot less than cameras of similar quality (even Pentax now that the K10D price has skyrocketed) and it has a lot of nice features that he wouldn't get in other brands.

All this gay brand hate about Sony not being "PRO LEVEL" is retarded, particularly when it's coming from people who are shooting with D40s and silver-bodied Rebels.

Too bad the ad I'm referring to was posted in Europe.
Of course, ergos are personal opinion, but I'm not just talking about how it feels in your hand, I'm talking about how efficiently it interfaces with your body. The locations of the controls on the Alphae are more my issue than the grip shape. I need to be able to use the controls without looking, and have them fall under my fingers when I hold the camera.

Examples: the Steady Shot button is under my cheekbone when the camera is up to my eye. On Nikon/Canon, the VR/IS controls are just aft of the zoom/focus rings on the lens, where your hand is already.
The control dial is on the front edge of the grip, where my shutter finger wants to be; the shutter needs to be in primary position, and the dial in secondary.

Also, 1000D coming out soon.
Also, silver plastic is for soccer moms.

You change the SSS settings often enough for it to be annoying (because the switch itself is annoying) on placement? Freak.

Your fine motor memory is pretty poor if you have to look for buttons on any camera tbh.

AFAIK, the only sony DSLR that has an (optional) memory stick slot along with the normal CF slot is the A700.

The A100/200/300/350 are all native CF but sony gives you a nifty little MS Pro Duo to CF adaptor...lulzy.

pfff wish the gave them with the 350... i've got a bunch of memory sticks from my psp i'd love to use in my pda o camera. Damn A100's
