i can't find either of the books you've listed on amazon, so i'm a little stumped. i've read a shitton of books on photography, however, so i can easily recommend the following:
1) the photo book by phaidon. i recommend this to everyone. it's ten bucks, it'll change your life. follow that up with Vitamin Ph: New Perspectives in Photography, also published by phaidon. really, anything phaidon publishes about photography, read it. their books are great.
2) you're in college, maybe? or live in a town that has a college? your school should have a fine arts library. check out their photography section, specifically the monographs (photo books). this can be expensive on your own, since photobooks usually cost at least 50 bucks, sometimes much, much more (they're usually published in limited runs). be systematic about this research; look up a photographer from the Photo Book that you especially like. take notes on the photos. rinse, repeat. Or, work your way up from the very beginnings of photography. see if you can figure out who influenced who, and why.
