No problem. The subject is about 1'8" in front of the wall, with the light 1 foot away at a 45 degree angle and about 8 inches above...

I was using the remote capture software with my computer sitting in that blue chair. As I clicked the shutter release button, I held the clipboard pretty much directly opposite the light like this.

Here's the setup: I used mostly light from the window (top-left in this pic) with highlights from the desk lamp (top-right) and the flashlight bounced off the same clipboard. I also put something under the violin so it would lean more toward the camera and reflect more of the sunlight. Also, the desk lamp and flashlight have completely different color temperature from the sunlight, but they helped to make the violin appear more orange, which looked pretty good to me.

would car headlight globes hooked up to a car battery or 12v switching ps be any good for photography?

>>88822
I don't see why not. They probably put out more than 100W of power, so I assume they'd be much brighter than the light I used in this setup. Why not give it a try and let us know how it worked out?

Sorry, looks like they put out about 50W or so, but that should be plenty.

dude thank you so much for the reply
I'm reading the strobist as well but
I'm not figuring out which lights should I use, and I'm having a hard time with this...
I was trying halogens but every lamp I tried was way too yellow, did you looked for halogens?

you can use any lighting you want, and just white balance it. if you start mixing lights however, youll have some trouble getting the lights the same, unless you want the mixed light look.

Those energy saving daylight bulbs are cheap enough. Put one behind a box with tracing paper stretched across it to soften the light. An overhead light and a reflector the other side if needed. Use a peice of large A2 or A1 paper and blue tack it up the wall in a curve from top to the table and you now have a seamless forground to background.

This is where you invest in gels to change the color of the lights. Look it up on Strobist in either Lighting 101 or 102.

even with gels, doesnt always work right. the lights will sometimes still be off from each other noticeably. i can gel my flash to match my desk lamp but its still a little off, so i have to make some compromises.
