I need a new camera. Somewhere in the 200-300 dollar range, possibly. My interest in photography has grown more than I expected, and this camera just won't cut it anymore.

Recommendations? :D

what sort of photos do you like to take ? dig / film ? mini / slr ?

with no knowledge of that you like to do... but..

in your budget, include a good tripod and a filter or two. You can get an older SLR and a good tripod and polarizing filter in your buget. If you get one that takes nikon F-Mount leses, you will alter be able to upgrade your camera back and keep your lenes... however somehting like an old screw mount pentax you so cheap and the lenses are litrally a few $$ each.

well, I was looking to getting an SLR, but..I dunno, seems like a large investment, would like something smaller (read: cheaper) if possible.

The camera I have (powershot a530) is nice and all, but it doesn't accept filters or lenses, zoom is pretty weak, and it overall doesn't feel very powerful.

like I said, the upgrade I'd be looking for is something that can accept lenses and filters.

I believe theres an adapter that can let your camera mount filters on your powershot.

But for 200-300$ your looking at an old Film camera, and thats IT (if you want to be able to switch lenses) DSLR's start at like 500$, and lenses are not cheap (neither are they for film SLR's but you can always find cheap old MF 28, 35 and 50mm lenses

D70s are being dumped by gearwhores for cheaps. They're in my area all day for ~$400. Most with almost no use. 1-2k shutter actuations.
Digital rebels are cheaper still.

could you be more specific about that adapter?

if it's the same as the one I'm thinking of, you press a small button and twist a ring that's around the lens assembly off. Then you twist a tube with threads on the end on to the camera.
