/p/, I'm new to the whole SLR thing but in my pictures, I keep getting these 2 spots on the upper left corner of my pictures. I'm guessing it's dust. I've tried cleaning the lens but I don't think that did anything. Is the dust on the sensor or whatever? And if so, how do I go about cleaning it without damaging anything? The pic I'm posting is some random one (no, I don't think it's any good either) but I've circled the area I'm talking about just in case.

Reading that, it sounds kinda risky and I don't want to possibly damage something I paid quite a bit of money for. So...is it better just to exchange it? I bought it less than 30 days ago.

One guy is fucking up the thread with advice that isn't risky at all, but rather guaranteed to screw up your camera.

Listen to everyone else, and the link to the Luminous Landscape posted in that thread and you'll be fine.

It's a lion, just stay in the car while taking pictures.

Shoot at lower f-stops, watch dust spots go away (seriously. They're most prominent at very small apertures. You saw them because you shot the frame at F13.)

You don't "exchange" nothing, all your sensor needs is a bit cleaning, but DO NOT do it yourself, go to your dealership or local photography-store and let them do it. Duzn't take much time, and might find a place where they do it for free :) You should do that every 3-6 months, depending on use :)

Sensor dust is quite natural and is IMPOSSIBLE to avoid, but you can minimize the risk by changing lenses quickly, don't waste time while the sensor is exposed.

p.s. About the DON'T DO IT YOURSELF part... yes... DON'T DO IT! Breathing on the sensor increases the moisture that causes the dust to stick to the sensor ;) Don't do it yourself...

Where do you people get the idea that you have to take a camera to a shop to get the sensor cleaned. What do you think they do? They don't have some sort of magical sensor cleaning machine that teleports the dust out of the camera, they use a blower and/or compressed air and/or sensor cleaning swabs just like anyone can do at home.

Buy some Sensor Swabs and Eclipse and Google how to clean your sensor. It's easy and not as dangerous as everyone makes it out to be.
