Sup /p/,

I know I'm pretty shit, so I'm posting here to get some advice on how to improve. Any kind of criticism would be great. I'll post a couple of photos, and you can tell me what you think.

The ace card is probably a bit over the top, but nevermind..

You have a ton of noise here and probably need to adjust your colors. ISO 800 was probably too high of a setting for this lighting.

I'll try re-take that, sometime. :/
I don't think I noticed that I'd left my ISO pretty high, thanks for pointing it out.

your lighting in these isn't bad, but I find something troubling about your composition. The lack of negative space is sort of distracting, and I can't really tell what you are trying to do with the pictures. What is the focus here? The woman's eye? The color shot provides a more delineated intent, because the saturation is high enough to really bring out parts of the mask and lips, increasing contrast with the shadowed areas. In B&W, I don't really like it.

>>293281meerkat picture is flat because your lighting is ambient and that's all. Your DOF doesn't make the subject "pop" because you don't have enough light to create the contrasts necessary for a spatial leap.

>>293295MEOW MEOW MEOW more cats in this picture, please.

Seriously, the lighting is again, too dull in this shot. There aren't enough highlights(specular or otherwise) to make this picture "pop". You are also suffering, again, from having your subject be the entire plane of the page - think about your perspective from the lens when selecting your framing and go from there. High/low ISOs only really matter when you are going for a specific kind of shot(higher ISOs for low light/gritty feel, lower ISOs for deeper saturation/finer detail like couture or fashion), so don't worry about that for now. Get your framing and light down correctly and worry about learning all the other stuff as you go along.

I think I was trying to focus on improving lighting and forgot about composition for.. most of these images. Thanks for pointing it out, I might try re-taking these (or something similar) but with a better composition.

I see about the dull lighting. I know about the 3 point lighting set up, but I have two (100W) lamps to work with. Do you have any tips or whatever how to get some good lighting effects or would it be better if I just experimented about with it?

Thank you for giving me a detailed explaination of what I'm doing wrong and everything.
