S3IS FTW.

ok but WHY please. it seems that the sony has better clarity at high zoom and higher res and higher ISO and the panasonic is the best at macros, with the S3 IS as the best for video capture which really is secondary. it's too complex to say s3ISFTW without explanation.

If you've already researched them; why are you looking for validation of the choice you've probably made already from random people on 4chan?
Buy the one you like and start using it. None of the three are doing you any good at all sitting on a store shelf.

you get more bang for your buck with the S3

Canon S3 IS though I would suggest you to look in Fujifilm direction too and do some research on their cameras as well, you might be as well surprised or not.

i haven't chosen one yet i am actually torn. everyone here says S3 though.

Canon definitely... but where's the G7 love?

the G7 looks pretty nice but it's not for me. i want a super-zoom with high camcorder hybrid functionality and these are the three that surfaced when i searched. G7 is too serious a camera for me right now and won't be serious enough when i get some skills.

just one last attempt before i go out and pick one up... you all say to go with the S3 but why? can you offer some reasons instead of just support?

I say S3 because I like Canon. Sony and Panasonic are general electronics companies, not camera makers.

if it weren't for the xD-AIDS and the sloooooooooow RAW writing, I'd probably still be using my bitty fuji. The lens was surprisingly capable for its throw, it handled very well and the colours were always good.

see above... and think about it this way (again, to support>>37773); Canon makes their own optical glass and panasonic/sony buy it from elsewhere.
Cameras are cameras first and computers second... it's all in the glass. Go with a reputable camera company with a solid history like Canon and you won't go wrong.

Also, interface with Canon cameras is a whole hell of a lot more intuitive than with electronics company cameras.

Sony = TVs & Playstations
Canon = Cameras
