I've been thinking about upgrading from my p&s to a DSLR.

Price is right, so I was thinking about getting this one. Kodak easyshare p880

I am utterly strapped for cash, and I found this one for cheap. Is it worth it or should i get a different camera?

Uhh...... you don't seem to know what a DSLR is OP.

That's not a DSLR. It won't give you any image quality advantage over your current P&S.

Well the site said it had full manual control and the option to shoot in .RAW

And that has absolutely nothing to do with the concept of an (D)SLR camera. If you're strapped for cash, and you don't really know that much about cameras, why think you should upgrade? Just stick with what you have, you'll only regret the purchase of a new camera, whether it's a DSLR or you only think it is.

That doesn't make it an SLR.

SLR = Single Lens Reflex = There's a little mirror that bounces the light from the lens up into the viewfinder so you're looking straight through the lens rather than an LCD. Digital SLRs are good mainly for two reasons:
1. They have much, much larger sensors than non-SLR digital cameras (with very few exceptions)
2. They have interchangeable lenses (with very few exceptions).

This is just a P&S with some extra controls

Yeah, that's not really enough to get a decent camera. If you could save up until you have, say, $300 or $400 you could get a good'n...

But yeah, I guess if you can get this one for $100 or less, it's probably not too terrible.

I'm not a fan of Kodak and I don't know anything about this specific camera, but I can guarantee that you cannot get a better camera for $100 or less.

It has pretty good reviews on Amazon, so it's probably worth $100 for sure.

Alright cool, I'm leaning towards getting it, but I need one last opinion.

I do want a DSLR. But I want a camera sooner than next year, which is when I will be able to afford a DSLR.

Bottom line- Should I get this camera now or wait until 2009?

Well if you wait untill 2009 won't you have saved up at least $300 or $400 like people said and then get a better camera? That or buy the Kodak now.

...yeah, that's what I said.

kodak makes the worst cameras in the world holy fuck

I have this camera. It takes AMAZING macro....IF you know what you're doing and it takes even better ones if you buy the lens. If you want a DSLR DO NOT buy this camera. I've had it for 3 years and its not good with much other than close up. Its not something you can buy interchangable lens for. I recommend Kodak for my new photography customers.....but not this camera. It takes horrible people photos and wasn't well adapted. I love it, but I'm a macro photographer...and even I am looking for a better one atm
