I bought this Sigma 28-300mm f/3.5-6.3 lens off eBay for $75 as my first lens to replace my kit lens. Did I buy good? I assume it was a good deal, either way.

Also what does the f-stop mean exactly? I know it's about the apature but my camera seems to go above the range that the lens says (or is that it just dicking around?)

Nah, what you basiclly bought is a poor telephoto lens that isnt a good replacement for the kit lens to start with.
Should of got a tamron 17-50 or a sigma 18-50

If you don't know what f-stop means then you shouldn't have bought a lens. Thats like buying a car but not knowing what MPG means.
