I need some advice /p/
It happens that i got 700 euros on my bank account and i want to blow it all on equipment, I currently got a Canon 400D and a Canon 50mm 1.8

My options of spending the money are:
Buy Tamron 17-50 2.8 and 430EX flash
or
Sell my Canon gear and get a Nikon d80 and a Tamron 17-50 2.8

My 400d feels like a cheap toy and im used to sturdy cameras from 30 years ago...Can the Nikon d80 give me that feeling?

400D has a stainless steel chassis under that plastic.

Nonsense is what my eyes reads.
Get the Tammy and the 430 EX and stop being a bitch. Otherwise, sell all your phot. gear and start with origami.

You'll be fine with the 400D,

I would normally recommend the D80 but you already have a camera having a flash + lens is better tha just having the lens

If you want sturdy feeling you need to buy something else than consumer level plastic cameras like 400d and d80. d300 might be able to give you that feeling but there is also a price tag thats beyond your budget.

with 700€ you should get at least 2x 430EX if youre into strobist stuff. If not, then skip the flash and buy 10-20mm sigma. (i assume that you already own 18-55mm kit lens)

Also stay away from the tamron and buy canon 28mm f/2.8 instead.

Why stay away from the Tamron? It has pretty good reviews, in some cases better than the Canon 17-40 L in terms of IQ

the xxxD series are all plastic, the xxD series have metal substructures and the xD series are pretty much all one piece of metal just covered with plastic

A used D200 would be a better buy than the D80.

However the 40D should be fine for you, Has better noise performance than the D80 anyway.

Why not the 28/1.8? Same IQ as the 35/2 except with USM.
