going to buy a 50/1.4

should i get the new sigma monster or the good old reliable Minolta 50/1.4?
>> Anonymous
Sigma = good.
Minolta Original = no circular aperture.
Minolta RS = circular aperture but hard to find
Sony = circular aperture but it has more plastic than MinRS.

Ethier sigma or Sony.

Sony is kinda fail at f/1.4, but one or two stops down and I guess they're equal (more so, all 50/1.4s, except maybe some old vivitar, are equal)

OP here.

i'm leaning more towards the sony.

if i want a fucking huge piece of glass on the front of my camera it better be the zeiss 135/1.8 or the 70-200/2.8.

OP here

For sure. But yeah, I can understand not wanting it due to no AF. Shit should be sick for static objects though. I'm contemplating converting one off eBay for an EOS mount.

or just get a Sigma 30/1.4

Requires quite a lot of modification to fit on AF sonyltas.

Thats a sexy looking piece of glass. How well does minolta shit adapt onto EOS? maintain infinity focus?
>> Anonymous

MC/MD Minolta doesn't adapt onto EOS or any other mount (except Olympus) without dismantling and replacing the entire mount.
Well, you can use one of those adapters with a lens, but enjoy your blurring and cromabs then.

Here's the procedure...

http://www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html

You have to take off the back end and shave the area around the rear element down. Then you have to drill holes in an EOS mount to fit on the back end.

You can reach Infinity on it but you have to shave down one of the rings little by little making sure you don't go too far. If you shave too much, the rear element will hit the mirror on a Full Frame Canon body.

It takes a lot of work and I'm sure people don't even think its worth it but... $200 on Ebay for a lens that's on par with the "L" version of the Canon offering is amazing (even without the AF).
