you could use a CPL that cuts 1.5 stops of light

do you have one

go 30+ miles out of town and try that image stacking thing from that other thread.

+1
Also, less trees next time!

Fark that man, leave the trees. I think they'll look great framing the stars.

It'll be different from all the standard plain stars images out there.

is there a way to keep the shutter open on a canon 40D to do the star trail photography? i just got a nice tripod that i wanna try some star photo's or whatnot.

Also i should add, that you should get a remote shutter release, I bought the canon RS60E3, it has about a 3 foot wire that you plus into the side of the camera, and it has a slide on it . So once you push down the button you can slide it up to lock it into position, locking the shutter open; then slide it back down to release once you get to the time you want.

there is a couple different triggers for specific camera models, your manual will tell you which is the correct one.

Am I the only one who REALLY misses the days when you could just screw a $10 cable release into your shutter button, instead of buying overpriced electronic crap?

no you are not

You can also get wireless triggers for it pretty cheap on eBay. I've got one and it seems to work pretty well (although I haven't really stress tested it yet)

Good job OP.

This is my attempt from a few weeks ago. I keep meaning to try it again, but procrastination is a bitch.

fark? just say fuck you 9 year old

i think the reason most people dont include foliage in their star trail pictures is because foliage always moves, and that just ends up looking stupid.

what is that, to small

It's my shutter release, I made it out of a sync cable for one of my strobes, an empty film canister, and a big red button.
