sup /p/

I'm going to finally give my pentax k1000 a rest. Selling all other lenses except for a 50mm prime... in case I feel like using some rolls.
Canon 30d with 17-55 on the way!

But somehow I feel really bad about all this. Nostalgia is invading me. :'(

Uh, why are you buying a canon 30d id you have some nice pentax glass?

Grab a K10D, and you can still use it. Hell the K10D is a step above the 30D ( except for noise ) Grab the Pentax 16-45 if you feel you need the wide angle and your all set. ( or wait til the DA* 16-50 f2.8 with water and dust resistant seals comes out )

Well... I'm going to start shooting weddings as an assistant and maybe some sports to make some moneys, so the lens selection of canon and the ISO performance of the 30d + 5fps sold me...

The k10d is really rugged, but I think there are some design compromises. Specifically, sensor noise and in body IS... I think lens IS is a much better system, since lenses last forever, granted you don't break them. Digital bodies on the other hand...

All in all, that's why I changed to Canon, but hey, I loved to use the Pentax system when I was learning photography, especially because it was dirt cheap. But it's cheap for a reason...

Lens selection:

Enjoy. All should work on a Pentax mount.

Noise: Not nearly half as much of a problem as people make it out to be. With any DSLR, at any speed, you will get better noise performance than you did grain at the same speed with your film K1000.

In-body IS is better overall because it's cheaper and it probably lets the lens be smaller. But two different approaches.

I just think that's its a bit off to dump your Pentax glass (which is almost surely better than a Canon kit lens) for lens selection when there are perfectly good third-party lens manufacturers if you need anything you don't have now, and over noise, which is the most overblown non-issue in photography today.

Don't spoil our chance to harvest his glass! :-p

Seconding the query into what lenses you're selling.

lol so many vultures

Well I have a pentax 20mm f/2.8, a 28-135 f/4, and a 50mm f/1.4, but I'm unsure about which of the last two I'll keep for film use.

oohh, yes, noise is a so-so issue, granted spot-on exposures (which can't always happen), anyway, pentax is sort of lacking in the telephoto department as well... I can't say I really enjoy the Canikon mentality, but the Canon or Nikon lens array is better and are available *right now*.

plus, I'm not getting the canon kit lens, otherwise, I would've just kept my glass :p

>pentax is sort of lacking in the telephoto department as well

Like I said, buy from a third-party lens manufacturer. Pentax doesn't make enough K-mount telephotos? Sigma does! Tamron does!
