It will, for close objects. As long as you have one with a decent guide number. Since you have a 30d, get the 430ex. 580ex if you can.

shoot the later sunset (half hour to an hour after the sun sets) overexposed on the day or two before the full moon. there is still a ton of light and color in the sky (maybe more than at sunset), but not according to your eyeball. your CCD will see it very clearly in about 15-60 seconds
