I like it a lot, kudos.

Thank-you :) I was worried about how the DOF turned out..

Good work. 2 thumbs up from me.

Nice colour, and good use of macro. Only thing that bothers me is the fact that the 'head' seems to be in shadow. But looking at the camera you own, a macro light would not be possible to attach, so you have done very well otherwise.
Keep it up.

It's a little intense on the lomo-ization, but I still like it.
>> KyrlonAcid
Love the weathered look its beautiful especially with the dead looking background and flat color of the roly poly, very dramatic!

Very interesting.. what lens did you use?

Judging by the EXIF, I'd say he used the one attached permanently to his S3IS
>> LOLOL HURRICANES
ok, the picture itself is good, here in lies problem, roly poly's arent a chrome green color, their brown, or peach, or black, depending on where they stay, never in my life have i ever heard or seen of one thats a chrome metallic green color. so heres the thing, you used too much photoshopping and made something great into something not so great, and the drop shadow is WAY TOO BIG.

There are 'green' ones in Australia, and If this is the person I believe it is (they are on dA, as well as I), then this photo would have been taken in Tasmania, Australia.

OP here.

To the person above that thinks they know me... Hey lol, I think I know who you are to :P And yes, these photos were taken in Tasmania.

To the other person saying my bug is the wrong colour, I'm sorry to say but you are wrong.
To the left you will see the orignal, and the only thing I did in photoshop was resize it.
The changes I did to the OP pic were this:
Step 1. Open file photo
Step 2. Run Auto-levels
Step 3. Slect with the laso tool an area about 5cm from the edge, and make a circle all the way around the photo.
Step 4. inverse selection. I want the 'outside' bit after all.
Step 5. Slight levels adjustment to make it a tad darker around the outer edge.

Thats it.
Happy now?

So you added the vignetting yourself... it looks ugly.

Hey, thanks for telling us that :) I think you showed "LOLOL HURRICANES" not to be to quick to judge.
I'm guessing you took the orignal in natural low light? That seems to give my photos a slight greeny/blue tint in some situations.. But then again, it could just be something to do with your camera, I would not know for sure.
It's a nice photo, and I don't think you went anywhere near overboard with photoshop.

OP here again.
Sorry you think that. Maybe you could be a bit less of a rude arsehole next time and tell me where and how I could improve.
It was not the best photo to start working with, so I did what I could. As you may see in the orignal, there was already quite a bit of shadow in the lower area, and in the corners.

Hey! I thought it was you, I remember looking at these photos the other day when you put them up. :) I still say you did a good job, considering you're still a noob at photography ;P Your own words! lol

Hi,
yeah, like No.61549 said, I just used what my camera has :( It's really hard to put lenses on a PowerShot S3 IS....
>> Anonymous
Omg I used to catch them all the time when I was a child. Bringing back the memories big time! Nice photo btw. I just read through the comments, and I gotta say don't worry about the negative comments to much. People have different tastes when it comes to this sorta thing, and it seems more people like it then hate it.

Awesome. I love the little buggers.

:]] I like it. Lots.

>>61553
I think that you're just jealous really. Even I could tell that the color in the OP's pic wasn't altered that much that it was changed from brown to green. The bug was a green/blue color to start with, get over it.

To the OP: I think it's an awesome photo: both the Orignal and 'touched up' versions are great in their own rights.
Frankly, you have hardly done any photoshop at all... Auto-levels? thats nothing lol
>> Anonymous
Wow, it's the same person posting over and over again.
>> LOLOL HURRICANES
hey, either way, it wasnt originally green.

it was a darker color.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>61609
Oh noes! He altered the levels! THIS IS THE WORST ABUSE OF PHOTOSHOP IN THE HISTORY OF PHOTOGRAPHY!
>> Atrum
>>61611
i love sarcasm
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
I like the bug. Think it looks cool. I don't know about the vingetting around the edge, but the photo itself is really neat. If anything, i'd crop some off the top and off the bottom to zoom in on the bug more so it doesn't get lost, but that's all I can suggest atm.
>> Macheath
>>61565
Gee, I figured saying that the vignetting sucks WAS telling you how to improve.

You also might want to avoid centering the subject. It works sometimes but I don't think it works here. Would have been nice if you had some sort of background.

aC you just love me so much dont you?

I like it, it reminds me a lot of those Dust Mite shots you see from the electron microscope.

do they own the brown?
