What are you using for your fireballs, out of curiosity, I used to make them as well.
>> Anonymous
Black powder and gas

I am a licensed pyrotechnic. I've done 400+ shots. I think I'll be alright.

You'd be surprised how safe you can make these. Really they last like 1 second. Like most things people call dangerous, as long you don't act like a retard around them they're perfectly safe.
>> Anonymous
>>270907
Exactly. Despite what the movies would like you to believe, explosions are predictable and repeatable. A half gallon of gas (thats what each of these use) creates the exact same volume of fire each time. It doesn't just randomly jump out and kill you. So if you know your stuff, take the necessary precautions, and aren't a retard, it's perfectly safe.

that's not funny, my brother died that way

if you jump face first into a fire you can die

really?? shit, I was just about to try that...

Don't be such a pussy. I've done it loads of times and it never did me any harm. Go for it.

plz post howtos on the pipe launcher in the vid and construction of the cool fireballs in the pics

rotate it a little and you'll have a winner.

i couldn't get away with this in my backyard... the metro fire guys would have some words to say!
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
i think your photography skills are pretty lacking but the video was fucking fun to watch
thanks for sharing, that was awesome
>> sage
Why didnt you compose the picture so the fire was behind them? Shit would have been pimp
>> Anonymous
wow you could have some amazing shots here if you didn't suck at photography.

This shot would have been awesome if you'd shot it at the obviously-correct angle. As it is, it's just kinda surreal, with guys jumping on a trampoline in front of expolosions...

Needs more EXIF.

Huge potential for very visually appealing and striking shots. As the others have said though the photography is crap in the video and photos. Quite disappointing really. The suggestions given already would be a good start for the reshoot. At least try a similar set up with this:>>271124

I can imagine that first one with them leaping into the air with the flames behind them and some flash to help balance it. Could be fantastic.

You've got the subject and you've got a good DSLR. No excuses now. Get to it and repost.

How did you go about doing that? I'd like to get a licence, what do I need to do to get it?

This is what the first photo looked like from a straight on angle. This is a still frame taken from the video shot in 720p, hence the low res.

My main interest in doing this is the pyrotechnics. Thats what I'm into. The only reason we film and take photos is so that we can review what happened. In real life it happens so fast and there is so much heat that it is hard to quantify how big it actually was. So being able to review frame by frame is nice.

Naturally enough the people here are more interested in the /p/hotography side of things though, so this is only to be expected. Such a shame you've got a good scene and a 5D there and not exploiting it for awesome pictures.

The still photos were taken by a guy who is looking to get into photography that contacted us and offered to pay for our materials if we let him shoot. He had never taken photos of explosions before, so a lot of them turned out pretty rough. The angles could be better, and they should have been shot with a faster shutter.

As I said earlier, when we do pyro, we don't like to slow down to work on getting the perfect shot. The footage is just used to review so that we can learn from it and improve new techniques that we are working on. I post the footage because a lot of it is still a lot of fun despite being raw. Thanks for the advise, criticism is always good, and I'll pass it on. I have the same problems with the photos that you guys do.

so wait... the photos are not yours?

as an aspiring pyro, could you give me some resources? it looks like your just using a 3"-4" pvc pipe with a detonator > black powder charge > cellophane > gasoline?

What do you mean they aren't mine? I am in them, created the pyro for them, held the camera for some of them. We pass the camera off, depending on who wants to do what. Is that a problem?
>> Anonymous
A photograph isn't yours just because you are in it or something you manufactured was in it. It is the photographer's.
>> Anonymous
>>271628Is that a problem?

Yes.

>The rules: Only upload images that you, the photographer, have taken.

This is for photographers to discuss photography. This is almost as bad as someone buying an Ansel Adams print and then wandering in to show off "their" photo on a photography board.
>> Anonymous
I guess I'm not familiar with photography ownership. I've never intended to do anything with photos other then just look at them and show my friends.
I was holding the camera for this one>>270827and this one>>270901
In the others I was either igniting the pyro, or I was in the photo.
>> Anonymous
That's cool then. Just so you understand and that such things can cause confusion or misunderstandings or people to assume you were trolling.

My bad. I hadn't read the rules since I first started coming to 4chan. I thought that you were just supposed to not post random photos you found on the net. I'll only post ones that I was physically holding the camera on from now on. Like this one.

Though it's technically against the rules, we and the moderators tend not to mind if you post someone else's work and say it's not yours.
