F-- problem Anonymous
Hello /p/! I bought a Nikon D80 with the 18-135mm stock lens two months ago. Lately it's been displaying a "f--" on the display and i know it has something to do with the lens not being detected. A friend told me its the problem of the stock lens that's with d80. So, what do you think guys?

This might be the problem: If you have you Autofocus on, you have to turn the F on the lens to the highest value, or it won't take pictures. Solve it by doing so, or switch onto manual focusing mode.

Good luck with your new camera.

not setting the aperture to the smallest aperture is the error fEE. f-- is when the lens that's connected doesn't have a cpu or the lens isnt detected.

try setting the mode to M and see if it takes pictures. might also check the lens contacts and such to make sure its not screwed up or dirty.

Consult the manual trouble shooting section and if you can find nothing, take it back to the store.

Try turning it off and removing the lens. After-awhile, reattach the lens. I think I had the same problem.

They are right...it is an aperture error. but the lens in question does not have a manual aperture ring.

Take the lens on and off again, a few times. Wiggle things around. If you don't get it working, send the lens back.

I have had the exact same problem. Here's what you do, and, I know it sounds odd.

Grab a pencil with a nice rubbery eraser. Not one of the stiff shitty erasers, but a good pliable one. Remove your lense, and rub the contacts with the eraser. Problem solved. I was told that by a guy at Best Buy and National Camera. I tried it and my D80 hasn't done it since then.

Apperently the eraser just cleans off the dirty contacts that are preventing your camera from reading the lense correctly. Give it a try and let me know if it works.

Don't forget to hold the camera facing down when you rub its contacts, or you risk getting shit on the sensor.
