Sup /p/

I have a chance to buy a d2x, plus a ton of accessories for it (no lenses), with the box, warranty card, etc, for $700 CAD

Think it's too good to be true? Or is this a fair price?

price is too good to be true. where are you buying this from?

Not really, but I won't be giving any money unless it's in my hands (he's local). Anything I should look for? Is there any reliable way to tell how many times the shutter has been fired?

I'm planning to give it a full test before I pay any cash, but short of it being stolen, I can't see how I can be screwed on a deal like this.

Are you sure it is not stolen or that the guy isn't going to rob you blind when you turn up with the cash?

Not going alone, maybe not with the cash first time.

About it being stolen, I'm not sure. Best I can do is ask for proof of purchase but short of that, it's just his word. It is a damn good price, and I probably won't end up with it, but if anyone else can think of something that could be fucked with it, that'd be helpful.

Are you going to be able to test run it before hand? If you could take a couple of shots with it and look at them at home you could see if anything is wrong that way. Damaged sensor, hot or dead pixels, lots of things can go wrong with the electronics.

The price makes me suspicious that there may be faults.

Ah, that's good to know. I have an EXIF reader that will read everything.

I've bought loads of used stuff before, so I know what to look for and how a camera wears. If everything goes well, I should have a chance to look at it in a week or so. This is enough to sell all my current stuff and move to the Nikon system, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Its a Scam, even if its stolen its too cheap, they go for 1800-2200 CAD still

There's always the chance that the guy's just a complete moron, but yeah I doubt this is legit.

Even if it was stolen, he could make a lot more money - any price up to $2k would move quickly

>This is enough to sell all my current stuff

this part especially gives me pause. i'm worried that in a week, you're going to be out 700 bucks (a lesson hard learned) AND your current camera.

let me repeat myself for the seventeenth time in this thread: IT IS A FUCKING SCAM. THE D2X GOES FOR TWO GRAND.

unless, wait. are you sure it's not a D1X? those go for about 700-800 bucks, if someone's even willing to buy it. most of the time it's hard to sell an eight year-old digital camera with a whopping 5 megapixels.

I'm not stupid enough to just dump all my current stuff before I even see this camera.

Like I said before, the only way this is going down is if I locally give the camera a full test, verify it's not full of dead/hot pixels, make sure it is not 10 seconds from having its shutter blades disintegrate to dust and there are no blatant indications it's stolen.

I don't have my hopes up, but there's no way I'm giving a cent or thinking of getting rid of my current lens system before the camera is in my hands.

if it's a d1x, meh, don't bother. If it's a d2*h*, which is in the realm of possibility, that's not an amazing deal, but not a bad one either.
If it's stolen, lol.

About stolen DSLRs:
to be honest, I have nothing against buying stolen cameras, so that's not the reason for me saying DON'T DO IT.
At some point, you will need to service your camera - and then you are fucked. Nikon actually has bounties for stolen cameras, something that started as far as I remember after a ton of D100 cameras got stolen from a warehouse in Germany some years ago. It takes one second to cross-reference the cameras serial number with a list of stolen cameras - and then you are fucked. So you will never be able to send it for service (but maybe your local camera shop would turn a blind eye - if for some reason they have something against collecting a fat check from Nikon).
