My friend was looking through my photo folder yesterday, and stopped at this one. She says it's a really good shot and started talking about it and aspects of it. What do you think, /p/?

I'm not a photographer and have no real desire to be, I just bought a camera for the sake of being able to take pictures at social events, but according to my friend here I'm pretty good at it.

Eh. There's nothing really that exciting about it. Maybe if
1. There weren't the distracting car in the background
2. It weren't overexposed
3. Erin were doing something more interesting than standing there with some eggs (even just standing there with some eggs and an interesting expression on her face)
this might be an interesting photo.

I'm guessing your friend thinks it's good mainly because it's taken at a funny angle with the subject off center and not looking at the camera. While these are features that often show up in great photos, they don't make for great photos in and of themselves. It's kind of like the people who run their pictures through the desaturate command and think it's suddenly High Art.

Sorry if this sounds harsh, but hey, you have no real desire to be a photographer anyway.

Get off the crack pipe.
I think he just liked the aspect of the little colored candy against the white and maybe has a bit of a crush on the girl.. who knows... kinda blah in my opinion.

What you mean to say, OP's friend is bi?

Your friend clearly knows as much about photography as you do. Fuck all.

Your photo sucks, and so do you.

Picture sucks, I'd be hard pressed to say find any exceptionally good qualities about it.

Hit your local book store and get a $20 beginner's guide to photography, really. It'll do you a lot of good if you learn the basics of things like lighting/shadows, center of focus, rule of thirds...; it's entirely clear from this picture that you haven't even begun to advance your photography skill past the usual "Point at people on auto-mode and take pictures at random moments" stage.
As far as your friend saying you're pretty good at it, I think he/she's just trying to get into your pants.

My two cents, anyway.

Nothing exceptional. Composition is pretty bad, and your contrast leaves a lot to be desired. Keep at it.

Thanks, guys. I really don't plan to look into photography, sorry if it came off like that. It's not my field, I'm more of a musician personally. Just wanted to know what /p/ thought of this shot. I just thought of it as "picture of my friend", nothing more nothing less.

You were exactly right, I was just taking photos at random times while dicking around with the settings.

There must be something in it that caught her eye and sparked off a series of thoughts that caused her to relate to you the pleasure she gets from you taking her picture.

or not...

Could some more people please comment that they don't like this picture? I don't think we have reached a conclusion yet.

I'm going to have to say I don't like this photo much either.

The car in the background and the tilt distracts me.

>I don't think we have reached a conclusion yet.

Conclusion Achieved.
