So, /p/, I'm tired of using school dSLR's, and I have a budget of...1000$ moneys. I already have a Minolta X700 Film SLR, and I'm interested in Macro photography, what camera/lens would you recommend?

Is the X700 autofocus? If so, something Sony or Minolta (They had two, the 5D and 7D) that's not the Sony A700. If not, just whatever DSLR you jive with best.

Lenses, you should have a pretty good idea what focal lengths you like by now.

Ahh, I have an old X-700 and I still love it. Unfortunately, the only DSLR I personally own is an Olympus' E-500 and I don't have the money right now for a $175 adapter ring plus the dremmel tool to grind down the aperture control knob... thingy.

So, if you have some excellent Minolta lenses and you would love to shoot with them on your DSLR, you might want to look into Sony (esp. since you're a student and don't have to worry about needing anything professional-grade).

OP, i was in the same sitution you were in. I had an X700 and was looking for a DSLR.

I loved minolta glass (my dad had a LOT of MD minolta glass) so i went with Sony.

Got an a700 and never looked back.

I just picked up a minolta at a garage sale. I heard they actually still sell film for it-- where?

OP here, I get mine at a shop in my town.

don't know why people are suggesting sony/minolta dslrs. you're still gonna need an adapter to mount md/mc lenses on a sony/minolta dslr.

nobody has said OP can use MD/MC glass. Simply saying that you'll already be slightly familiar with the Alphas after using even something as old as the X700

I got mine using the $200/month I make selling my stock photography on the internet.
