I think the background's very busy. That flat tree is really hurting the picture.
>> Anonymous
Probably a wider aperture would have worked.

The kit lens won't let him, unfortunately, without messing up his composition

Hm. I was actually trying to get both (most of) the fountain and the gazebo in this shot, so the background's somewhat deliberately like that.

Here's another shot I took of the same scene, different composition.

Feels like too much random stuff in the way. I think the first composition is better.

It's still too busy and the fountain doesn't jump out like it should. Try cutting down the tree and shooting again for optimal results.

Also, what's up with Canon and camera actuations?

This one would benefit greatly if you had a nice narrow dof.

Here's another of the same fountain, but concentrating more on the water.

I like how the fountain frames the tree.

HDR to the rescue.

You realize that "Yanking the brightness sliders up by two and a half stops" isn't the same as HDR, right?

Didn`t yank up the brightness, It`s a mild HDR.

Top one is HDR. Bottom is three notches on the brightness slider. Big difference don`t you think?

Just pointing out the difference, not which one is better.

Right, okay, but it's still not HDR. Even if you accept the argument that you can get an HDR from a single RAW file, I don't think anyone who actually knows what HDR means will argue that you can get it from a single *underexposed* JPEG.

Attached is a version I created from the RAW. All I did was bump the exposure slider to +2.46 vs the previous version. This is not HDR.

Yes it is and HDRs can be created from a single file.

This thread is disgusting.

Do you even understand what HDR means? "High Dynamic Range". If anything, you're *shrinking* the dynamic range of the original JPEG by compressing the histogram into the brighter areas.

Or are you just trolling me?

Take a look, it`s HDR. The proof is in the pudding. Do you even understand what you`re saying. All you did was adjust one of my HDR examples I posted. First you tell me I adjusted the brightness control and now you tell me >All I did was bump the exposure slider to +2.46 vs. You are full of shit, stop being such a sore loser.

So that's a "yes" to the question about whether or not you're trolling me, then.
