This is my sister's holga, she's had it for 2 years. She' never used it, ever. I asked her if I could have it yesterday, she got mad and said no, when I asked why, she said I wouldn't get it.

What's so special about Holgas?

Resident lomofag here, same as always!

Damnit, all this talk about Holga and none about Diana. I own both, and personally I enjoy shooting with my Diana more. Especially now with the new lenses coming out (ie: fisheye, 55mm wide angle, 38mm wide angle, and close up lenses) there's a shit-ton more you can do.All I have for my Holga 120 CFN are the colored and the soft focus filters, along with the ringflash. I also own a SuperSampler, Fisheye2, and of course the LC-A+. I actually know a thing or two about "proper" photography so I can actually produce half decent images.

you realize, don't you, that at no point did you answer the OP's question?

i'd really like to know, too.

to reiterate: what's so special about holgas?

i don't care what you can do, or what kit you have, or what is available for what model ...

seriously. straight up answer.

"what's so special about holgas"?

>"what's so special about holgas"?
They, like Dianas, give weird, quirky, partially out of focus images owing to their generally poor quality lens, light leaks in the all-plastic body, internal reflections, etc. These can give images a sort of dreamy ethereal quality if used properly.

From the comments that generally start springing up on Holga/Diana threads, though, most of the people here only consider a picture to be "good" if it's technically flawless and tack sharp throughout. And there's a lot of anti-Holga raaaage because they can be bought at Urban Outfitters and are sold by Lomo for absurd prices.

id rather have an old KIEV medium format, better for the money

so it comes do to the old "art is subjective, just do what looks good" theory?

thanks, that was an excellent response.

It's more of a trendy, hipsterfag kind of thing like cross processing and boys wearing girl pants while smoking cloves. I'm not saying everyone who shoots with them is worthless, but people like #253844 are few and far between.

Not if you want pictures with the Holga look. Some tool says this (or something like it) every single thread like this, and I honestly don't get it. Some people get a Holga because it's the only medium format they (think they) can afford, but most people who get Holgas get 'em because they want the Holga look. I've got both a Diana and a pimptacular TLR (pic related) and they have different uses.

Yep. I assumed that. So why even bother to participate in a Holga thread? You don't like the aesthetic. We get it. Additionally, nobody cares. You're not going to change anyone else's opinion. So seriously, why comment? Why waste your time raaaageing because other people enjoy shooting with Holgas? How about you go out and take some damn pictures instead?

well id like to see some holga's pics so ill keep bumping it. i know someone here has one

Steal it. If she never used it for two years, she wouldn't notice it.

It's not about the Holga, it's about your attitude that you could use someone else's property better than them therefore you have a right to it. read "crime and punishment" by Dostoevsky.

not very common in this country, heck i've never encountered one before. not worth the effort to import a $20 pretentiousfag's camera.

>What's so special about Holgas?

They are cheap plastic cameras with plaslic lenses and light leaks that orignally retailled for something like $15 US but now sell for 2 to 4 times as much.

I was in Samy's yesterday and saw on on sale for 62 fucking dollars. They are the equivalent of buying pre worn and tattered jeans for a premium price.
>> Anonymous
They're worth a bit of fun if you pick one up for $10 or $15.

I got one from a friend. I ran a couple of rolls of film through it, had my fun, and then moved on to a real camera.

I suppose you could also say it's an affordable way to get into medium format, but you could just as easily buy a real TLR or a rangefinder off of eBay for fairly cheap.

>>254403

Notice the "fairly." As in fairly cheap as compared to other MF systems. Which usually cost a few hundred dollars.

Agfa Isolette. Some can be had for below $50, but will have to be cleaned. You could probably get a working one for $70-$100.

Learn to read, you idiot.

Holgas are great. I know anyone holding one is a moron and generally a worthless human being. It's like a badge that can be used to identify such cretins from a distance and save me and others talking to them and finding out that way.

I approve of them. Pas them out to all that will take them. It will only improve matters as far as I am concerned.

fixed lens rangefinders. look it up.

Why hello, i'd love to introduce you to my Canonet ql17.

also, the argus c3 is a delightfully good rangefinder for the price. probably can be had for cheaper than a holga even. produces some great 'lofi' or 'vintage' looking pictures (although that's probably because my RF is a bit out of funk..)

for shits and giggles, though you're obviously a troll, here's a link to the ebay results for rangefinders at a maximum of 70 dollars (how much you'd pay for a holga from LSI).

he was probably thinking of the super isolette, also known as the Ansco super speedex. coupled RF and automatic frame stop. and a half decent lens to boot. nice little folder.

what about the Voigtlaender Perkeo II? seems a lot nicer and is cheapish

Depends who you are. Some hate them others love them. They are toy cameras. Cheap easy to break. But fun and have some kick ass results if you use em right.
