is this a bad decision? Anonymous
i have a xti right now and have been itching for an update but can't really afford any of the newer canon bodies (40d, 50d, 5d)

so i was thinking if i should buy a used d200 for $600-700, i have 2 manual focus nikon lenses, a 28mm and a 50mm so it can hold me over until i can afford a better and modern lens

so i would actually build up 2 kits, one canon and one nikon, is this a bad idea? do i just use the saved up money on a canon lens instead?

Generally a bad idea. Splitting your budget between two systems is best avoided.

going to save money for that 5d then

Since we know nothing else of your situation (not even the lenses you have) we're not going to be of much use.

If you do get a Nikon get, get a D80. There's not really much advantage to the D200 over the D80- just more FPS, 1/3rd stop increments in the ISO, 13 as opposed to 12 guide number on the flash, and more meaningless bullshit you can get from DP Review just as well as I just did.

i have the 18-55 and a 50mm with a 580ex flash

i just want a more rugged body from a "pro" line and the better controls, like the wheels, buttons and viewfinders
