So I found a new lens today. It's an old Canon movie camera lens that my friend just had sitting up in his attic. He said he got them (he has 3-4 of these cameras just lying around) when the Weather Channel was upgrading their cameras and were going to throw away their old ones. It's a "J15ax8B" 8-120mm f/1.7. I did a google search for J15ax8B and it turns out it's quite an expensive lens. What I'm trying to figure out is if I could find a mount converter so that I could put it on a Canon DSLR. If anyone has any idea of how I could do this I would be much appreciative.
Mount.
Side-by-side comparison. The movie camera lens on the left, a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 on the right. The actual mount is definitely a lot smaller, but the glass seems to be similarly sized.
After removing the zoom controls and all the Weather Channel stickers.

>>243936It's a television lens, not cineYou could probably find some poor UHF station that needs some replacement ENG gear and make some bucks.
>>243948It's a television lens, not cinewhat's the difference?
>>243952aspect ratio i'm guessing
>>243948ah, thanks. Think there would be any way to convert it for SLR use or should I just sell it?
>>243956OP here. Actually it looks like it switches between 4:3 and 16:9 so aspect ratio doesn't really seem to be a problem.
>>243957it won't project nearly enough to cover your sensorit will be like.. half a 4/3 sensor size
Sell it.
8-120mmThat's probably going to have some serious crop. Like, 3x crop factor if the wide end should be 24mm equiv. It'll cover only around half an APS sized sensor.
Why don't you just sell it and buy a lens that actually fits your camera?
>>244042I probably will. I just didn't know if it was possible to convert it to work with an SLR. I mean let's face it, an 8-120 f/1.7 would be ungodly if it actually worked well on an SLR before I looked at selling it.
