Hi there, /p/. This whole place (and photography in general) is new to me, but this seemed like a good place to learn what I'm doing right.wrong and gain some hints.
To start this learning process of mine, I'm going to present a few pictures I took. Constructive criticism is very much welcome. Thanks in advance.

1. I like it, but the sun really distracts me from the swans
2. slanted, fix this in photoshop and crop out the boat in the bottom
3. the glare on the water is distracting, not that great of a picture

OP here
1. I'll take the "distracting" bit as a compliment. As much as I wanted the focus of the photograph to be on the swans, the sun is in there on purpose. I love the sunset, and ever since finding this lake, all I've wanted to see was what's exactly in this photo.
2. No boat involved, but the comment is much appreciated. Hadn't noticed previously that it was slightly off-angle. Thanks.
3. And yeah, my least favourite of the three as well. Would've been much better if the water hadn't been darkened so much. Same for the background.

Thanks for the comments. I'll keep them in mind when taking photos in the future.

sUN Sets - Mega original! keep up the easy work, it's not like the sun and scenery does most of the work for you.

Not going for originality, since it doesn't exist any more. Everything has already been done.
And I'm taking photographs of this scenery because I happen to like it, not because it's easy.
At any rate, thanks for your comments.

This is a shitty excuse for generic and poor quality work that hacks give to justify their inability to be creative or original.

To be honest, none of these is all that bad, they're just generic, and tacky. They all look like they should have inspirational Bible quotes printed over them (pic related) and be hanging in some midwestern housewife's kitchen.

That said, they're a good start.
You're clearly thinking about composition, and you're taking shots with the intention of trying to capture a specific image instead of just pointing and shooting.
