Is anyone else considering going to San Francisco during the protests?

Not to protest of course, but to get some photos if it's at all possible.

I live in the area, and I'd feel sort of ashamed if I didn't at least go so that I could see the protesting and have that experience. It's as good a shot as any to get some pictures( no pun intended).

Sorry about the massive file size, etc...

I'd do it, but I live 50+ miles away and am far too broke for gas/BART tickets.

If you're really close, I'd say go for it.

When is it?

I'm hearing that it's either tomorrow or the day after. I can't believe I missed it, but apparently three BAMFs went and climbed to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge's tower, then unfurled a giant sign protesting China, etc...

I'm not even interested in the protest's reasons, to be perfectly honest, but I can't imagine a better planned opportunity for a few hundred photos. If I can get a few pictures of the guy running with the torch in front of/surrounded by a bunch of protesters, I'll be incredibly content.

>three suicidal idiots went and climbed to the top of the Golden Gate Bridge's tower

Fixed. Between the incredibly strong winds and the LONG LONG LONG drop to the bottom, I can't imagine a cause worth that kind of risk without safety precautions, and somehow I doubt some protesters would have thought that through.

But DAMN would I have loved to have seen it.

Also, how did they not get stopped? I thought after 9/11 there would at least be some fucking security guards stopping them before they got out of range.

Security theater. The security for the bridge got there after the climbers had gotten out of reach, and supposedly some other people at the bottom spent the better part of 10 minutes trying to reassure the security personnel that the climbers weren't terrorists.

Conveniently, authorities later said that they didn't bother stopping the plot( about which they were allegedly aware) because they "knew that it wasn't going to be violent", but that raises a whole hell of a lot of questions.

Still, all that keeps popping into my head is the image of some security guards looking up apprehensively as one or two guys on the ground yell at the guards not to worry as some idiots climb up to the top in the background, above a shit load of traffic.

Just my fucking luck - today I find out the route for the torch is the EXACT FUCKING ROUTE I TAKE TO WORK EVERY FUCKING DAY. Add to that the fact that I see about a million of those liberal faggot hippies showing up and this makes Wednesday the worst fucking traffic every day.

I hate you all. Taking the MUNI is gonna suck ass.

Leave early + bring camera = better day?

I start at 9ish + I leave around 5:30ish + I can't leave early cause this is a real job = the following quote from a certain movie (and I'm not even kidding):

"So I was sitting in my cubicle today, and I realized, ever since I started working, every single day of my life has been worse than the day before it. So that means that every single day that you see me, that's on the worst day of my life."

Lunch break + "food poisoning" + maybe some fake vomit(?) = FREE DAY!!! YAY!!!!

No seriously I feel bad for you. Fortunately I'm a student. Unfortunately I don't study photography, so I probably can't justify skipping out all of a sudden, especially in the first week of the quarter.

...I don't even take any breaks, lunch or otherwise...

The pay isn't bad ($60k) but I still live with the folks and don't spend any of it because I need to save up every last penny. This is the shit I have to put up with to earn enough money to put myself through grad school... God, I hate my life.
