So my cactus trigger & one receiver came the other day and I decided to play around with it today. I'm really limited right now as far as lighting goes because I've only got the one receiver and my Sunpak is the only flash I have that will sync with it.

I used a homemade snoot + diffused light from a window behind me for this shot.

Well, /p/? Does it evoke the feeling of a tomato? Complimentary colors yay?

no offense

but you either have a shittastic copy of the lens

or you don't know how to focus
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>222362
before anyone notes how soft the focus on this picture is, I'm going to reshoot with those martini glasses later tonight or tomorrow, so I will probably reshoot it entirely to fix that.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>222364
hurr, too late. The focus was off with that shot and I didn't notice until I got it onto the computer. It's signifigantly cropped, too, so that didn't help. (square cropping, and there was more blank space than I wanted that I couldn't really keep from including in the shot. If I had moved the camera closer, the reflections would have been messed up and the line would have been higher or lower than I would have liked)
>> Macheath !8b4g0BkNZg
What surface are these things on? The reflections of the tomatoes kinda bother me.
>> Anonymous
Really like the first one. The DoF is too shallow though, use f/11 or something.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>222371
I actually liked and wanted the reflections, I can cut those out easiy though.

The surface is a really, really glossy wooden table :p

>>222372
5.6 should be enough depth, I just need to move the focus a little farther forward.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>222361

I like the reflection, looks fairly cool
>> Anonymous
I like the reflections but there's something disturbing about them being out of focus.

More DoF'll fix that though.

ugh, horrible background and surface

this is why strobist is for faggots

Reshot it, still didn't get the focus exactly right though. Oh well.

Long exposure, fired the snooted flash at each glass seperately.

not liking the surface I can understand, but how is a solid color a horrible background? what would you have done differently?

And I do read strobist, but a single flash isn't really the "strobist" way.

>>222421
The surface is wood, too much focus on the reflections would have made more of the woodgrain show.

Are you color blind or something? A blue backdrop with orange tomatoes? What the fuck is that shit? A red backdrop would have been so fucking much better. Lrn2fucking color theory.

>>222433
Lol I bet s/he is color blind. Fucking Strobist faggot. I agree too, blue and orange don't match you fucking MORON!

You *do* realize blue and orange are opposite each other on the color wheel, right?

It's a boring vegetable shot, but as far as boring vegetable shots go it's pretty, partially because of the colors.

hay guise, is it just me or did it just get very samefag in here?
>> Anonymous
>>222427
Look. Photographs like these need it all in focus, so f/8 minimum. That massive glass in the front being slightly out of focus is shitty.
>>222438
I felt it too.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>222445
that's f/14 actually, haha. The off-focus is totally my fault though, the only reason it's out on that one is because my 50mm 1.8 can't focus on objects that close.

PROTIP:

1. use a white background

2. work on your lightning. Try to have one big main light and one light from the opposite, adjusting the shadows and or ambient light

3. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_theory#Complementary_colors
>> elf_man !!DdAnyoDMfCe
>>222437
This.
It's bright and almost harsh, but the colors go well together.

>>222748
1. I think the blue background helps the things stand out. It makes it not like the thousand other stupid tomato pics I've seen in chain restaurants trying to give off a "fresh" image.

3. From that article:

>orange is the complementary color to blue

I seriously don't get why people are trying to bitch color theory at Sage when she's applied it straight on by the book here.
>> Anonymous
because it looks like shit and going by the book is retarded?
>> Anonymous
>>222756
1. It doesn't look like shit.
2. Then your criticism shouldn't even mention color theory. "I don't like the colors" is valid. "L2/Color Theory" is not because she clearly fucking knows color theory and has applied it. It's like telling someone driving the speed limit, but you want them to go faster, to drive the speed limit.

I would have preferred a pale green background to a navy one. I agree that these are really complimentary.

Oh jesus...bitching about my focus I totally get, but giving me a link to an article about color theory and telling me that the colors don't "match"? Oh god, I lol'd. Blue and orange are complementary, and blue and yellow (in the martini glasses) are a primary/secondary pair in RGB. I understand color theory just fine, thanks guys. :)

Unrelated, but have some teapot camera. I saw it earlier and couldn't help buying it. It even has a little ceramic "hotshoe"!

Don't forget to use fisheye lens, shoot only with a rangefinder camera, divide your frame beforehand to be sure you are shooting using the rules of thirds, and most impotantly mix /f/ with /p/ in EVERY shot.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>222787
wut?

>>222785
I know, right? I'm still not quite sure what it's supposed to be, but it's cute.

In even more unrelated news, I just realized how awesome season 2 of the X-Files was. Current episode: Irresistible. I just wish I could remember what season this one episode was from, I remember it but I can't remember the name. It was the one where a couple of teenagers found a cave and going in it basically gave them super strength.

Anyone want to critique this one? Something besides "shitsux" or b&w=insta-art?

yeah, it is. All of these are generic food shots except for the martini glasses, and the only thing really interesting about that is the upside down glass. it's hard to make them too interesting :P
