If your shooting weddings or other private functions, how you look (and your camera is part of your image) is sometimes directly correlated to how much you get paid.

I quoted $180 for the last private function I shot (2.5 hours at a birthday party)
I got paid $250 in the end, EVEN before they saw the pictures. Simply having 2 camera bodies, 2 flashes and not being a total fuckwad PROBABLY had something to do with that extra pay.

Probably most people on here aren't even thinking about making money off their photographs, let alone are professionals with an image to market.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>148592
True, you've got me there

Last wedding I was a backup at, had the paid Pro shooting with a Rebel XT (No battery grip)
His assistant had a 20D lol, I thought that was a bit strange

>>148593
Maybe the main photographer was skilled enough to get good pictures even with an XT?

As a silver Rebel owner, I've found that there's only a very slim range in which people give a damn about the color of your camera.

People who don't know from photography just see "Big camera" and don't know that silver ones are less respected.

People who actually know from photography realize that a silver camera will take the exact same picture as a black one.

So it's just that sliver of people who've learned a little bit and are grasping for anything that lets them say "I'm better than you", even if it's something as stupid and trivial as the color of the other guy's camera. They're also the sort of people who flame people for using film cameras or digital cameras just because the camera's film or digital, respectively, and the sort of people who think that the reason that all of their pictures suck is because they only have the kit lens and can't afford really expensive glass.

tl;dr: Bawwwwwww I bought a silver camera and look like a tool.

I posted the pics they took last week i believe, They were mediocre to bad. Too much photoshop applied and framing was consistently horrible.

However, the bride and groom didn't seem to mind / notice, so I guess good job?

Used, two-year old, low-end camera body and two shitty off-brand lenses and a shitty first party lens that isn't even as good as the standard Rebel kit lens for the price of a new 40D?

Gee, I can't imagine why that bad boy hasn't been snapped up yet.
>> Anonymous
>>148798
Used yes, THREE MONTH OLD, camera body and 250 dollar battery grip with 3 extra batteries, three decent not phenominal lenses and 2 nice cases. PISS OFF
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA

Your particular camera might be three months old, but the XTi came out in November 2006. So, nearly a year and a half old model. Since when the XSi has been announced, so XTi prices have accordingly dropped.
I just went through and priced out your kit. And remember that most of these are brand new prices, not used:
Rebel XTi body: $520
Battery grip BG-E3 with two batteries: $180
Tamron 75-300: $129
Tamron 28-80: $70
Canon 35-80: $74 (this one's used, 'cause I don't think they ever actually sold this crappy film kit lens on its own)
Total: $973. And remember, that's for mostly pristine, new-in-box versions. And your Buy-It-Now is $1200.

I ignored the filters (the CPL being the only useful one) and the cases (you probably got a bag that sucks or you'd have mentioned the brand) and the "Digital Concepts wide angle adapter" because you were a fool to even consider buying it.

Sorry to burst your bubble but... Actually no, fuck you, don't post your fucking spam on /p/.

Signed, Asking price is waaay too high
>> Anonymous
>>148598
well thats the thing isn't it, pros are skilled enough and know what they're doing to get good pics with any camera

so why does nikon sell so many $5,000 D3 bodies?

Performance, handling, and durability. Anyone who trusts a plastic body with paying their bills is a moron.
>> Anonymous
>>148865
Most Pro's also have backups, And D3's aren't always cost effective.
It may be cost effective to abuse 2 D40's and buy new ones when they break. Depends on what you are doing...
>> Anonymous
And people with rebels are usually just gadget freaks, too. It isn't a camera to them, its a toy and the cool thing they saw at best buy. Ive termed them best buy wannabes. They usually can be found on dpreview comparing noise samples from the newest low-end cameras.

No they are not, mine came in a gray and blue box with a huge ass picture of the camera on the side.
>> Anonymous
>>148867
I've noticed that since digital photography has become mainstream, a lot of people who are into "photography" are just techies who like cameras because they're another gadget they can plug into their computers and argue about on the tubes.

Sure there were gear nuts before digital, but nowhere near as much or as bad.

They're in focus, specially the first one; they just used a wide aperture. Read a Photography 101 book, you might know a thing or two from there.

>> Silver Rebel XT archimedes
     File :-(, x)
I bought a silver XT for shooting photojournalism assignments at school. I figured that people would leave me alone and let me shoot if they thought I was an amateur. In my case, it defiantely works out. For weddings or Pro shoots, I would buy the black body. You will look more professional.
