getting a cert or having a degree doesn't actually mean you're good at it. i know for a fact that most editors at newspapers know jack shit about photography and only hire the photographers that have degrees because they think the photographer is probably good because of the degree. it's bullshit. but i guess that's the problem with most jobs.

wrong!! interviews for a newspaper/media job are judged mainly on the portfolio, which should mainly consist of event type photographs. pictures of sporting events, outdoor gatherings, social issues, concerts products, expos.. which are generally not the type of assignments youre going to get, in any photography class.
