Calendar release party pskaught !!CrjzPzel1dX
I took some pictures of the gallery show we had for the calendar this weekend, thought I would share some stereotypical long shutter flash shit.

Too fucking long.
It's more like a double exposure now, then a shutter drag. It's hardly stereotypical on /p/. Stop trying to force shitty ideas down our throats.

I drag at most 1 second, usually 1/2 a second at a medium aperture.
You have nice ambient, but too fucking much foreground. Did you flash at the beginning and the end?

Sorry, but it looks like a mess. And not a hot one.

I have to question your choice of images to upload. I mean party shots?

>>300708
This one at least has something going for in the how the face as aligned oddly with the body, but the background garbage ruins the shot. Try with this same idea in a more controlled setting.

Your usual stuff is more interesting than this even if it causes a shit storm on /p/ because of the way you process it and your use of flash. Sometimes the strange look benefits your the surrealism in what is going on the photo, sometimes not; but it does create a consistency that is valuable for making photo series.

if /p/ is any indication, the 40D is a shit camera

40D is a shit camera, I was really fucking unhappy with it and how slow and unreliable it was, but my 5d was lifted.
>>300721
yeah party shots, that's what I'm uploading right now you clown. All my other shit is to good for you. this was more for the band, their music compliments this style pretty well.

The first shot shows the crowd, the second is kind of cool because the two melt into each other and the third is nice because of the colors and the hand.

Sounds like you got badluck. Mine's pretty fast and has never let me down over the course of 7months/7777actuations.

after my camera was stolen I shot a birthday using my friend's 1ds mark II, its a whole new world, professional body with the perfect auto focus, so many points, super fast. I think it was stepping down so far that the change was really noticeable, from 36 focus points to 5 (or whatever it is) was pretty huge, and the crop factor was a killer. even the 5D, with not that many focus points was still more reliable for me. but I'm sold on canon's flagships, there's a reason they go for 8grand.

in your impsofmargeandfletch website it shows 3 people. which one are you kind pskaught?

heisted your 5D?

Does the 51 point auto focus on the D3/700 not tempt you much then?
I guess you have quite a bit invested in Canon glass?
>> Anonymous
Oh yeah, and maybe think more about your flash angling.
If you had it lower, pointing up, it wouldn't have brought out the walls, which to be honest are pretty crappy.
Seconding the shorter shutter time.

the walls were already lit, flash didn't touch them.

that's why exactly. I've never used a nikon, I'm sure its great
>>301425
I tracked down the lens but not the body, BUT insurance will cover the mk II. so I'm not too distressed.

who gives a sheet about 51 point focus... I use one AF point, then lock it in if needed to recompose...

This works until you start using really fast lenses. DOF isn't always this kind.
>> Anonymous
>>301579
That's ok on crop sensor, where you have about a stop more DOF per aperture than on FF.

When stuff is not in the middle of the frame, focus and recompose does not cut it. Having a gazzilion AF points was not just marketing scam.

massive win. i approve
>> Anonymous
>>301593

explain further, why can;t you recompose on FF?
>> Anonymous
>>301601
It's not FF per se, it's just depth of field. You could usually do it at f/8 (small-ish aperture pulled out of my ass) on full frame, but you can't usually do it at, say, f/1.4 (large aperture pulled out of my ass) on APS-C.

Larger formats have less depth of field, all other things being equal, than smaller formats. That's all. When you move the camera you change the distance from the lens to the subject. If depth of field is enough to cover the difference satisfactorily, you're kosher. If not, well, you're not.
