So, what lens filters do you have? I assume almost everyone has UV and probably lots of people have PL. What about something more interesting? IR, variocross, star, fog?

BTW is there a point in getting both UV and Skylight 1B?

I've actually photographed with a broken filter before. It makes for really interesting and crazy photos. I wish I still had that roll of slides somewhere. As for what filters I have, I don't have any UV, but i have polarizers on almost all my lenses. I have a yellow filter and a blue filter for fun. I also have a softening filter, but dont use it very often.

I have a Cokin Series-A system with a few of the popular ones (8-star, PL, Fluorescent) and some stuff like IR, Gradual ND8 and Multi-Image

I put a UV or Skylight filter on everything. I also have one of those Hoya "intensifier" didymium filters I use occasionally.

Better the filter smash than the front element. The filters I use most are a circular polarizer, ND4 and 21 orange. I usually screw the skylight filter off with the lens cap attached to it when I'm shooting.

I have UV's for both of my lenses but I don't usually use them unless I'm going to the beach or something harsh like that. I have a Cokin P holder and a red filter for it. Also a 77mm CPL that I use with both my wide angle and my 50mm via a step-up ring.

IF thats a decent quality filter it could be more expensive than that crappy lens... So whats the point?

I use my lenses 90% of the time without any filters on them, 30,000 pics so far and not even a scratched lens.

Heres my typical weekend photo shoot. Not the safest place to be without a filter

UV, Polarizer, and R2 because the salesman talked me into the deal.
Now I don't really use any of them.
Except I taped the R2 filter to my flashlight for super stealthy nighttime use! =D

I've got a bunch of filters that I never use because my girlfriend's mother never had any idea what to get me for Christmas before I got into photography. These include an ND4, an ND8, several color filters, a Star-8, and probably a few more. They're kinda more trouble than they're worth.

The one filter I actually occasionally use, and probably should use more, is a circular polarizer. I mostly just can't be bothered to drag it out, though, especially since I'm already always dealing with the hassle of switching lenses around (I'm a fast prime junkie. It is my downfall)
