does it really matter with such a boring shot?
>> Anonymous
it's your basic null shot - no EXIF, no composition, no purpose

true, but I'd rather not critique something that is not the OP's

nice boring shot

I'll critique it and all the other crap that I see here on a regular basis.

I'm tired of seeing people upload crap that they think is artistic or meaningful when in reality they just took a billion photos with their eyes closed and chose the 5 or 6 photos that only managed not to come out blurry and retarded. In some cases people even choose those photos. If you take a photo, think consciously about what you're photographing, consider what underlying meaning there can be in it, and what it means to you and, more importantly for critique like this, what it means to others. Certain things, certain arrangements have the same or similar impact on many people around the world. A picture of a kid blissfully eating a cookie and a smashed porcelain cookie jar on the ground could speak volumes to people.

All I fucking see is a lock. Not even a door, not even a window. What am I supposed to see that's special? What am I supposed to see that strikes a chord with me? With anyone? This photo is shit. If anything, it reminds me of people who try too hard to impress me and at the same time offer nothing, ever, for me to be impressed by.

for a shot like this, I think it could have been better if just one thing like the tip of the lock slide was in focus. With that DOF and the focal point, there are too many different things in focus, the ball of the lock, the frame of the lock and some of the wood...
>> Anonymous
This could be significantly improved with heavy vignetting, more contrast, and fake film grain.

But then you'd be Beethy.
>> Anonymous
oh look, a lock.

how very interesting.

When it comes down to it this picture was taken on a ferry, It is a lock for the vent hatches. this picture was take with a Nikon D40x. Manual focus. One shot was taken. Turned to Black and white. I don't know how to post the Info on this picture. But seeing that you have people like the guy above who can't understand why, why people put pictures like this on 4chan.. aa it's 4chan. Well I guess b/c this is to discuss about how the photo it self could use improvement. We all like to take different types of pictures, how about thinking about that before going into a huge judgement on the contents of the picture. I can understand that you might know more, but stop being such a big nerd about photos and enjoy them. Would you say the same about this picture is a famous person took it....

No.

I think you're upset at the wording of the answers, and their critical nature, but it is true.

You have your improvements - think about subject. Right now its just a lock, maybe you could've included something else in the shot or done an angle that showed the vents or some shit... either way, at the moment, its a picture of a random lock.

I agree with the previous comments. It's just not that interesting.

Although...er... I do kinda like the fake beethy edit of it. DON'T JUDGE ME.

I'm not the anon you were responding to, but I highly doubt anyone famous would shoot this, unless it surfaced from their days of learning how to use a camera. and, yes, it would still be crap if a famous person shot it.

The composition is meh, not quite to the point of being awkward, but not interesting either. The focal plane is annoying because of the various levels of focus between the lock, mount, and hatch. There is no content, at all. The conversion to black and white was done well, but you have a highlight that should be burned a bit so not so much is blown out. It could just be the extreme DoF, but nothing looks extremely sharp, maybe a little (very little) camera movement caused it, or maybe the lens you used.

>>238566
So resize it and save it as a copy. Save for web sucks.
>> Pentard !pjwjmEQ1RM
The fake Beethy edit is interesting, in part, because it looks like it was taken with some bizarre camera, or like there's some sort of story behind it.

OP's picture is just a latch.
A latch that needs its levels fixed.
