/p/,

I just bought an S5 IS and I'm considering returning it and getting an original digital rebel and a couple cheap lenses.

The only thing I'd miss is the awesome video mode.

Will image quality be worth the hassle?

I'm thinking about getting an S5. It's just that it's so bulky.

Depends. Do you shoot mostly outdoors in daylight? Then probably not. Indoors? Ever? Especially in low lighting? Then very much yes.

Effectively as bulky as an SLR. You'd be better off getting a compact cam like an A650IS instead unless you really, really need the extra zoom reach. They have the same image quality.

Yeah, for all intents and purposes it's the size of a D-SLR with the noise and sluggishness of a p&s.

That's why I'm considering returning it.

Love how you fail to mention he needs to get the camera along with a $100 lens for it to be better.

From the OP post:

The 50/1.8 is Canon's cheapest.

Nope. DSLRs are the best always. No other cameras compare. Get one.

Looking for an S5, if you decide to sell?
