80 Film Cameras for Under 50 Dollars! Anonymous
http://blog.epicedits.com/2008/09/17/80-film-cameras-for-under-50-dollars/

So which ones are your favorites? Any other cheap film cameras everybody likes not on the list?

In particular I liked Kodak Retinette 1A. I have never used film before but I think I might get one.

I have used for long time the Canonet QL17 which is a film rangefinder camera from Canon. It has a fast fixed lens F/1.7 40mm.
The camera is full-manual and Apperture priority automatic exposure. It comes with an internal light meter.
The viewfinder is bright and large, very comfortable even using glasses.
This is a great cheap camera. I recommend you to use it!!
It also comes with some details like a little window that shows you if the shutter is cocked or not, etc.

Not a bad idea. A lot of better options there than buying the modern junk cameras for the same price.

You will learn a lot and have a good time with that Canonet.

I also have this camera, and would recommend it to anywone who is looking for a film camera.

My name is Barack Obama and I approve of this camera.

I'm so new to photography so sorry if this is a fucking retarded question.

Does it take like, normal film that you can buy from a non-specialist shop? I'd really like something with manual focus to get started on photography but I don't want to blow my money on something I might be bad at.

>>277280
It takes the same 35mm film that you can get at your local cvs
>> Anonymous
>>277280
Yes, it use "normal" 35mm film which can be purchased on any photography shop.
The focus is full manually. I think it's the perfect camera for you to learn.

I'm with you there. I got this camera after i've been trained with manual cameras, but it is a fun, easy, and great camera overall to use. After you get used to the viewfinder functionality, using a film SLR will be a cinch.

OP here;

How much should one pay for the QL17? I don't think it is as cheap as 50 bucks. But yeah something under 150 is still way cool. Which seems to be the QL17's price.

Anything on the list really catch anyone's eye?

277256 here ,
the only shame is to waste money on film. But the great thing is that I haven't known any digital camera like the QL17, even any DSLR:
small, compact, robust, full manual, accurate meter, fast lens, hotshoe, remote shoter capable...
Even my Bessa R lacks of some features.
It's a great camera. The picture was taken with a QL17 by myself:

I bouhgt it from eBay several years ago for 40 EUR (50 USD).
Maybe you can still find bargains like that on ebay.
My camera came cosmetically and technically as if it was new.

I know exactly what you mean, and of course crop digital cameras don't have shit against this baby. I have a 40D, and i mean i'm always happy with the results, but i'm never as eager to wait for my film to be printed and see the shots. Here's a shot i took not too long ago with it.

I bought mine on KEH for $40. After I replaced the light seals it works like new.

Not anymore.

This is true. You can expect a surge in demand every time an article like this comes along.

I use some bad boy from like the 60s. Doesn't even have a meter but you work out how to do that shit by eye after a while, and if anything I appreciate the fact it's made me learn what the fuck I am doing. Absolutely everything is fully manual. Never fucks up and looks like bad ass. Praktica L. Got a new lens for it though because dudes can suck a dick if they think I'm taking pictures in 35mm
>> VF-19
Well, I got a KX for $50. Came with A 55 1.8, a broken 28 2.8 (aperature blades not closing), and a 200 4. It also came with a ton of filters, and a Vivitar 283.

Technically I paid about $25 for the camera itself, and $25 for the rest of the stuff.

Personally, I like my KX more than the K-1000 I had.

What the fuck are you on? Isn't the praktica L just a 35mm camera? I'm not a big fan of the Pentacon 6 family, but I just want your Jena lenses.

I concur.... that anons post is weird. Its like macho yet homoerotic and retarded all at the same time.

That olympus trip 35 is always fun.

Over the canonet QL17. I would suggest the OP also look at the Canon AE-1.

Bah to the fucking shots of film rolls. big deal. I have at least twice that much Kodachrome and at least three times that much Elitechrome. Do i go taking pictures OF THE FILM I'M TAKING THE PICTURE WITH? no.
>> Anonymous
>>278889

you don't have any film you faggot. you probably should take pics of your film and then post them in this thread.
>> Project !dashI8UpO.
Having Kodachrome isn't about taking photos with it, it's about taking photos of it and posting it on the internet.

I always wanted to get some ridiculously ancient rangefinder. If I ever find one in some charity shop for like 50p, I'll snap it up for sure.

The thing is, you can't get digital ones with decent manual features or good glass for anything under $500 or so.
>> Anonymous
>>278889

It was dirt cheap, so it's a big deal :P They came without canisters so I took a picture while counting & canning them.

Whoa I want a FED 3. No wait FED 2!

What would you choose /p/?
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>278908
Clearly you don't know what a rangefinder is. Three digital rangefinders exist, all with M mounts so there's no lack of good glass. None of them even approaches the $500 level (the cheapest goes for $1200 used on a good day). And they all have full manual exposure.
>> Anonymous
Getting a nice film rangefinder isn't that hard. There's been production runs on non-Leica models even in recent years.
>> Anonymous
Voight makes some decent rangefinders. Leica is the measuring stick but its also a *really expensive* measuring stick.
>> Anonymous
Leica is overrated.
>> Anonymous
I was glad to see the Olympus OM 1 and 2 on the list.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>278955
Yes, for sure. But the guy I quoted was talking about digital rangefinders.

>>278962
Leicas are overrated until you start buying them secondhand. Then the price/performance ratio starts making sense.
