is there a way I could fix it, or should I just send it off for warranty repair?

Would you feel confident about opening up a lens? If not you should send it away. If you've got it on warranty and it has a problem then it would seem silly not to take advantage of that warranty.

if it's a konica minolta/sony lens, just move the little tab on the back.

Try working over the front and rear elements with a fine grit sandpaper. Then leave it soaking overnight, submerged in a bath of WD40. That should do the trick. Always works for me.

Yes. I like to buy and sell a lot. There's always people willing to buy. They just lap up my "mint condition, tack sharp" lenses.
