Seriously guys, help me out. I need a good macro lens and ive looked through so many sample pics it feels like my eyes are gonna bleed. I cant make up my mind.

Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF VR Micro
_vs_
Sigma EX 150/2,8 DG APO HSM Macro

The nikon does have VR, but it costs a little more. Sigma has awesome sharpness and i think its even sharper than the Nikon.. but im not sure. Any help here would be apreciated

You're deciding between the Nikkor and Sigma.

I don't know what there really is to discuss, if you can afford Nikkor then just go for it and later you will thank me.

you can see here the Nikkor is VERY sharp, infact, insanely sharp!!!

this is the Sigma lens, tho on a canon mount, it should perform much the same as on a Nikon body. Produces good, but not great results.

I have the Nikon 105mm macro and it is fucking hot. Also impresses the ladies while taking fantastic shots, if you can handle the beast. If you don't have the money, go for a cheap lens. If you do, go for the Nikon and pull the chicks in.

...pull chicks...with a lens...where do you live, where do you hang out, can I stay at your place?

When you have a DSLR with a flash and a big lens on it, people are impressed or they think you are a pedo. If only I could meet a woman who thinks cameras are totally hot..

well, i lean more towards film cameras... but as long as you know how to use what you're holding, you should be good to go.

Also OP, if you are shooting a Nikon.. go for the nikkor. hands down. they make their lenses specifically for their cameras. ALWAYS go for the Nikkor.

You know, I've got several film cameras. Both 35mm and medium format. Just sayin'.

film vs. digital... gives a whole new meaning to 'preference.'

forgetting the minor quality differences for a moment, shorter focal lengths give greater depth of field (focus). the 105 will be easier to work with, while still maintaining enough distance to not scare off bugs/whatever youre shooting. 50mm macro lenses require you to be too close for live subjects.
