Hey fags.

I need a compact, 35mm point and shoot camera with a hot shoe that doesn't make me a faggot. I like shooting with medium format, but I'd rather get laid by slender white chicks who dig plastic.

pic almost related, but too fucking expensive.

ps. I hate you all, /p/ was never good.
>> Anonymous
>I'd rather get laid by slender white chicks

You just described about 50-70%+ of any given photography class I've ever been in.
>> Anonymous
I fail to see why a 35mm point and shoot will get you laid. The only people who still use those on a regular basis are women over 60 and/or the very poor, and neither group is likely to have young women swarming all over them.

Incidentally you can shoot with medium format in a compact camera (get a folder), and that _will_ get you laid by the geeky photo-chicks at least.
>> Anonymous
Enjoy getting laid by 60 year olds, OP. I'm a poorfag and I still manage to own decent gear.

Let me describe the situation in detail.

I own 3 SLRs. 35mm(EOS 5), 120(Mamiya 1000s), and crop digital(xti). I need something I can take to parties, and occasionally slap my sunpak 383 onto for extra lulz.

Oh and shoot like everybody on this site: http://www.triangletriangle.com/

I've looked into the Olympus XA series, but I can't take it seriously because of the lack of hot shoe. The Vivitar wide and slim is a definite looser for the same reason, even though the flare is awesome.

Do any of you faggots even know what I'm talking about? Looking anachronistic gets you laid. Period.

>>258337
If buy doing it wrong, you mean refuse to pay inflated prices for a shoddy product, then I'd rather do that. The vivitar is almost as good and still goes for < $40 on ebay. Hmmm...

So you're saying the whole toy camera market isn't blown out of proportion and grossly overpriced? See me after class.
>> Anonymous
>>258345
you severly misunderstood me.

LOMOs and DIANAs and other shitty cameras can be had on ebay for cheap. they're only expensive if you try to buy them from resellers that cater to hipsters or, heaven forbid, LSI.

as for why you'd actually waste your money on such a piece of shit is beyond me. put your 30 bucks towards a canon ql series rangefinder. good quality glass, great cameras, and they have hot shoes.
>> Anonymous
>>258348
Ok. You didn't exactly make yourself clear the first time.

I'm not interested in yet another camera system, but I'd never really serious considered the a RF. Thanks for that. It seems like the QL 17 comes with a fixed 40? I need something in the 24-35 range.
>> Anonymous
>>258355
hmm, i don't know offhand of any fixed lens RFs that come with less thatn 40. there might be some, but you'd have to look for one.

If you can overcome that though, it really is a great camera, produces nice clear images, its small, easy and quick to use, and it looks like its right out of the sixties. Mine gets plenty good use. don't have any samples cause i dont have a scanner though.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
Rollei 35? They don't normally make them that small with real hotshoes. Maybe one of the Olympus Pen series would fit your needs, but they're half frame.
>> Anonymous
>>258358
not to mention they're also expensive as fuck in comparison with other similar cameras. Not that they aren't worth it mind, because they're really well made and designed *(the ones made before they moved prod to singapore anyway).

op was looking for something cheap.
>> Anonymous
Just get a shitty argus and end this. Everything suggested is either hard to find or clearly more than the OP wants to spend on a camera he's most likely going to thrash.
>> Anonymous
Though my budget was < $50, it it's guaranteed good glass, I could see myself buying an RF system.

http://www.cameraquest.com/com35s.htm has interesting suggestions. The ricoh 35R is delicious, but impossible to get. There's like 5 people on flickr who own them. Who threw this out? Do you own one?

Again, I already have a functional 35mm SLR that is awesome(EOS 5) so I just need a p/s that fits in my back, non skinny-jean, pocket.
>> Anonymous
you can get the canonet for about $30-50
>> Anonymous
>>258368
I suggested the 35R. Yes, I own one. There's a bit of a cult following around them now it seems, but I picked mine up dirt cheap in a thrift store. They can be found if you look around hard enough.
>> Anonymous
>>258368
>that fits in my back, non skinny-jean, pocket.
sounds like you want an XA.

the RFs that the other anons are bringing up wont fit in a pocket, i assure you. the rollei35 might, but that's more than 50 dollars.
>> Anonymous
Thanks for all the name dropping. I'll definitely have to go around thrift stores in my area, even though all the hip kids already raided them 2 years ago for cameras.

Chances are I'll find one or 3 of these. I just hope that it has a fucking hot shoe. Seems that the market for my needs just doesn't exist;

1. 24-28-35 Range
2. Hot Shoe
3. Fits in pocket.

Does not exist. I either get 1+3, or 2. Shit sux.

>>258383
I bought an Olympus Mu recently for 50 cents. Diestn't have a hotshoe but very compact with 35mm lens and built in flash.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>258360
As far as I can tell the Singaporean ones are just as nice, but all Rollei 35s can't really be counted as well designed. The compromises they had to make to make it so small resulted in a pretty unusable camera IMO.

If you really must have external flash the only thing I can dig up that's pocketable and wide is the Ricoh GR21, which is out of your price range, wider than you wanted, and only has a sync socket, not a hotshoe, so you'd need to carry a bracket too. The other GRs may be worth looking at, though they can't use external flashes.

Actually one camera I can think of that's pocketable, has a 28mm lens, and a hotshoe, is the Ricoh GR-D. What's more important, the taking pictures part or getting laid part?
>> Anonymous
I don't understand why you need a hot shoe, but pic related is going to be my new P&S (well kind of) as soon as I pick up some 120 Tri-X.

As you can see it fits in a pocket quite nicely, and SPROING it has a 75mm medium format lens. It even has a cold shoe and a flash connector, if you're willing to deal with that. I melted my old cheapo vivitar flash with bug repellent (don't ask) but I bet the camera would work fine with whatever you put on, provided it has a cable.

(Yes I'm the guy in the thread asking about developing verichrome).
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>258458
And that reminds me of the wide world of 35mm folders, though those tend to be in the 50mm range. OP could look at the Kodak Retinas or similar.

Also the Minox 35 is worth a look. Actually holy shit I think it fits all of your requirements except for maybe price.

I am a dumb shit and always forget to attach the photo. EPIC AWSUM NOAIZ because photos were taken with a digital P&S @ ISO400.

Anyway that's the camera folded and unfolded, and I have a 31 inch waist so those aren't giant fatass shorts. It's amazingly small for a MF camera.
>> Anonymous
>>258461
There is nothing wrong with that level of noise, even at 100%.
>> Anonymous
>>258465

Eh, I can see it in the fabric of the shorts. Thanks for complimenting my nearly 6-year-old 4-megapixel compact, though.

(I secretly love to set it to ISO 400 black and white mode and use it just like I do my Minox loaded with Tri-X).

Check out the Konica Auto S3
>> Anonymous
The wealth of info on this thread is ridiculous.

My choice for non hot shoes last night was the XA,
Minox(pre-Leica? lulz), and the Konica($$$) are all cute, but the Canonet is superior in my opinion. Other wise, no MF. 35mm Shooting is a must, so I can redscale whenever the fuck I want. Price must be low.

>>258457
Getting laid will happen more often if my style of photography becomes more serendipitous.

I think I will just get an XA(tons on ebay) and bitch about a hot shoe until i'm rich enough to afford a Minox.

don't get a minox, the XA is better.

I have an XA and XA2. I end up using the XA2 more often anyway, but shrug.

Probably getting a Oly 35 SP soon :v
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>258587
The Minox 35 series isn't pre-Leica at all. They're all rather recent. If you're looking up those little spycams you're doing it wrong.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>258320
Just noticed this. As for looking anachronistic, what you can do is scrape up the cash for an RD-1. Not one person upon seeing it for the first time ever reads the "digital rangefinder" inscription on top and always goes "so when will you develop your film?" after I take their picture.
>> Anonymous
Poor OP didn't realize /p/ doesn't go to parties and therefore do not understand what to suggest for a compact 35mm film p&s that will most likely get the shit beat out of it.

Why isn't this thread archived yet?
I learned to much today. I didn't know /p/ could be so helpful.
>> Anonymous
4chanarchive never archives anything from /p/. Pity.
>> Anonymous
>>258461
how do you focus these things?
>> Anonymous
>>259836

you have to become really good at guestimation and 'scale focusing'. actual physical focusing is done by turning the front lens element, that little ring all the way in the front past the aperture and shutter speed setting.
>> Anonymous
So go to 4chanarchive.org, click request interface, and request thread 258303 on /p/. If we get 4 or 5 we'll have it archived.

It is definitely useful data in here and will continue to be so.
