Walked through a new park today I haven't been to before. Mostly IR pics, took a few visible light ones.

Preeetttyyyyy....mmm

Do you shoot on IR film or do you have a DSLR with no low-pass filter?
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL

DSLR (D70) with the low pass filter removed and replaced with a 720nm cutoff filter.
so AF, metering and everything works pretty much like normal.

Sweet. When I upgrade to a 5D I'm going to replace the low-pass in my 300D with a piece of optical glass, and just buy a Hoya 72R or w/e the high-pass IR filter is called. That way if I really feel the need, I can still use it to take color shots (with a CC1) but have all the awesome IR.

No need to do metering or AF since all my lenses are MF, and it's a digital camera...metering is "do a test shot". lol

Anyway, super awesome.

If you had AF lenses I would have recommended the cutoff, However given the wide angle nature of IR, with MF lenses you are probably going to be fine.

Plus then you can use it to take UV pics too.

Hadn't even thought about UV photography. Are the sensors very sensitive to UV? What about the CMOS in a 300D?

The other advantage of my MF lenses is that they all have IR focusing marks, so wooo.

Forgot to mention: Wouldn't I need quartz lenses and/or a piece of quartz glass in front of the sensor to do UV? I thought most optical glass blocks UV radiation.

Did you do that yourself?

yes, you would

haha hell no, I bought this camera used (shutter actuations was 623 if i remember right) And like 200 of those are usually Nikon testing
I got a fantastic deal though, 400$ for a D70 that was already converted.

Not 100% sure about UV but i believe without quartz lenses you can just have REALLY long shutter speeds and use a limited selection of them.
