So I am moving up from a point and shoot to a dslr. I shoot mainly outdoors, specifically wildlife. I was looking at the nikon d40 and getting a 70-300mm af lens. I know the autofocus wont work with it, i prefer manual focus anyways. So, im concerned that I am going to outgrow this camera quickly, but I keep reminding myself its the photographer and glass that makes the picture. Any suggestions?EXIF data available. Get a D50 instead
>>230210disregard that op
Rent a lens first, manual focus on the d40 is a pain in the ass. More so than any other camera I've used. Viewfinder is just too damn small. What do you need a 300mm lens for anyways? Theres precious little the 55-200 can't capture that the 70-300 can. And from what I've seen the 55-200 vr is sharper.
Renting a lens is something I considered, I will proally end up doing it. I shoot animals, mostly larger mammals so I need as much zoom as possible.
nice pic btw
D80 would be a much better choice than the 40
>>230230Doesn't those bridge cameras have most zoom? They have something like 20x zooms and whatnot.
Do yourself a favor op, stick with the d40. It gets bashed by rich gearqueers, and anyone who says it takes shitty pictures is a shitty photographer. Unless you are a professional with high demands, the d40 will be a great match.
