It came with the 18-55mm, which is surprisingly sharp.
As far as kicking myself in the ass for the D80, I get to play with it every day at work for free. I've obviously played with both enough to know that the D40 will suit my needs for now, and to be honest, the size and interface make this camera really fun.
And 33888, I hope you don't have a DSLR, because you know the DMillion is coming out in the future right? Should've waited with that logic!
