soup /p/. Look what my fellow Marines get to use in combat. Frankly, I'm jealous. Maybe I should've become a combat photo guy or a recon guy instead of an air traffic controller :-(

This is a picture from an exercise, of course, but exercises are meant to replicate actual combat to the greatest extent possible.

Lulz at big fucking white lens to destroy all camo. Put some gaffer tape on that at least.

I've seen some of the lenses and camera bodies that they use in actual combat. It's usually either black or painted in camo.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
I saw a photographer when I was in edinburgh (WHEN I WAS) who had all black lenses with green gaffa tape on them, i wanted to punch him a lot.

I'm assuming that he wasn't a military photographer?

That's funny, a mate of mine in the Australian Infantry Commandos unit was telling me some of the scouts were using huge fuck off nikons in Afghanistan to locate insurgents. I'm presuming they were talking about the 200-400mm or the 600mm by the length they were describing...

Lol at the OP's photo, the first person to use a White L lens would probably have been spotted and shot on the spot.

I'd hope they have the sense to at least shop in the catalogues for the nature photographer's camouflage for their kit.

Why would they need to use these when they could have binoculars, monoculars and telescopes? If they don't want to take pictures then it doesn't seem the best solution.

The guy in the picture is using the camera to report on the location, size, etc. of enemy troops during the exercise. They send the pictures back to the command via radios, so these guys can stay out in the field for days and days, constantly sending back information without having to wait on film processing.

Once again, this is just an exercise. I've seen a lot of black and camouflage equipment.

Edinburgh Australia?

Im getting into an Imagry Analyst position. F-111's go up, take recon photos, send them to me. If im taking photos Id rather do it from the safety of a cockpit travelling at 800km/h

I'd assume they shoot in JPEG since there is no processing and the file size is much smaller, but I honestly don't know.

not knowing the bandwidth of 1 single radio channel broadcast from a portable: I assume JPEG small (non-fine)

Does any actually have much info about this kind of work in the UK?

Mixing both my interests of being in the Army and being a photographer...

This is my camera.

There are many like it, but this one is MINE.

My camera is my best friend. It is my life.

I must master it as I must master my life.

My camera without me is useless. Without my camera, I am useless.

I must fire my camera true.

I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me.

I must shoot him before he shoots me. I will...

My camera and myself know that what counts in war is not the shots we take,

the noise of our iso, nor the difuse we make.

We know it is the hits that count. We will hit...

My camera is human, even as I, because it is my life.

Thus, I will learn it as a brother.

I will learn its weaknesses, its strengths, its parts, its accessories,
its flashes, and its lenses.

I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage.

I will keep my camera clean and ready, even as I am clean and ready.

We will become part of each other. We will...

Before God I swear this creed.

My camera and myself are the defenders of my country.

We are the masters of our enemy.

We are the saviors of my life.

So be it, until there is no enemy, but PEACE.

if you can't find something interesting to photograph as ATC then you're not very interested in or knowledgeable of aviation. you should probably change jobs or kill yourself

Like somebody directing dozens of flying objects are at any given moment is going to be able to work a camera during that?

Seriously, think before you post.

No, see, it's perfect. He can just fly planes into each other and take pictures of that. That's gotta look pretty awesome.

He'll need a good long telephoto for it, obviously.

I have a good deal of free time (I'm posting from work right now) but I'm not allowed to take pictures of the aircraft or much of the base. I could very easily be arrested and charged, which is not worth the crappy pictures that I'll probably take with my lack of zoom and the poor weather and lighting that we have most of the time.
