All shit...

That one of the hobo showed a HINT of something good, but you had no clue what you was doing and missed a opportunity, as instead of shooting what you wanted, you were shooting what other people do.

Your works bad and you should feel bad

Ive given my advice for the day,

Am tired and cant sleep, so i thought id remind you of what a talentless prick you was since you took the time to put your shitty photos, in one big file where no one can give real crit.

You want advice, grow a fucking spine, the ride it out of here!

If you want to keep at it, and you ask people for feedback, your going to get people who dont like your work (and in your case, ALOT of people, as you suck).

Get used to it, or dont ask people for advice if you cant take the truth, faggot
>> Anonymous
I'm sorry as horrible as he put it, I have to agree. Though it seems to be a good starting position, your type of photography seems very cliche. It's just like what I've seen in any other book or beginners portfolio, the thing about photography is there's a specific moment in time when the wind will hit you and whisper THERE and NOW. You get the camera, focus it and snap shot whatever it is that peaked your itnerest. Sometimes taking your time can be a virture, yet sometimes it can be a hindrance seeing as how the moment may be lost. The bottom 1/3 of the pictures seem very amateurish, as if you just took them and said ,"People may like this, so I'll keep it." The black and white photo showed promise as well as the dog one, but to be quite honest and blunt, they would probably be nothing more than someones background on a computer for a few days.
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
Looking at your photos made me sleepy.
In nearly all of them there's nothing really interesting going on. Composition is bland and flat. Barely any thought or concepts behind the shots.
Photos look like they belong to someone who got a low end dSLR a few months ago and is still getting the hang of it.

Read up on basic composition. That's the main thing your shots lack.

>>250781
samefag here, I'd also like to add that I actually do like that waterfall photo seems very PBS.
>> eku !8cibvLQ11s
Flash on gig, instant fail. Have you ever seen a great looking gigphoto taken with flash? (Actually, I've seen one interesting. And that's rare.)

Only photo I liked a bit was the skater down middle. It had some quality you could see on generic youth clothing ads.

Also, for future, you could post your photos to 4chan separately. This compositon doesn't work.
>> Anonymous
>>250766
yes because saying something is bad and offering no way to improve qualifies as advice

>>250866
yeah, one of my fellow photog friends who uses flashes during concerts a lot, but he goes to a lot of hardcore shows with major crowd interactions where there are no lights.
Also, what would you have me due, shoot at 1/30 sec f4 and have it light only by red and orange lights and be boring, or use a flash and capture the action and emotion?

>>250783
thank you for the advice, but I'm confused as to what about the composition you don't like/I don't understand? Maybe a few example of what was wrong/could improve?

Sorry for size but here is an original shot no edit showing the shooting conditions and exif info. It was front light by 2 reds and 2 ornages with a striaght down spotlight in center and then the drummer and had mainly yellow with some green and purple.

Oh, also because I just posted those number as an example. I am currently using the 17-85 f4-5.6 IS lens with a Canon 40D. That camera was bought with my tuition money and I've been using that lens for awhile because now that I am at college the photo school here has some nice L lenses I can check out.

these are all shit.
Just give up now bro..
If i were you, I'd lurk like a motherfucker on here. get a real idea of what's good and what's plain boring/shit. When you are shit, taking more photo's doesnt improve you. you have to see what others are doing and understand why things work and why some things dont work.
Lurk more is all I can say here.
The first step in learning something like photography is in admitting that you know nothing and admitting that your work sucks.

Okay, so you photographed at a bad place. You can't always win. But flash is instant fail. Feel free to proof me wrong.
After gigs I might use up to 30 minutes to edit a single photograph if there has been absolutely no light. You do shoot RAW, right?

Action and emotion isn't enough alone.

The only interesting photo you have is the snapshot of the art museum.
And its just that. A snapshot, like all the others.
I could take all of these pictures with a 35mm disposable camera. But I think this will all be lost on you as you.

>>250938
First of all drop the fucking attitude. You came in here expecting praise like every other point and shoot insta art idiot on 4chan. Your pictures show that you have little understanding of composition or exposure.

Someone mentioned flash at gigs?

>Also, what would you have me due, shoot at 1/30 sec f4 and have it light only by red and orange lights and be boring, or use a flash and capture the action and emotion?

I'd rather see you suffer a heart attack tbh.
Yes you can capture -action & emotion- using a flash, but; as you've sucessfully proved - its possible to totally destroy a photo, rendering it soulless.

Read about rule of 3rds, you are overusing central framing. Your pictures are flat due to huge DOF.
All in all, you aren`t thinking about composition, you just shoot. That`s typical at start.
Drop sport/concert decisive moment is hard for beginners.
Check out photos of Frank Cappa, C.H.Bresson, Sexton, Man Ray, Hartwing, Sieff.
Think about putting some emotions in your pictures, fear, pain, love ,hate. Make such pictures that don`t need names .Anyone just looking at them can see those emotions.

Best, get some old books, 35mm film SLR with 50mm glass. Fucking best way to learn photography. One roll of fill will improve your ability more than making 1000 digital shots.

So does the photog I used examples, and frankly, if your work is similar ot the hsot you posted, I would easily choose his.

Sure, your shot has color but you can harldy see any action/emotion from him. The lights are distracting in the back/foreground and his face is covered

Yeah it depends how close you can get.
Best solution is 70-200 2.8 IS/VR gives nice coverage.
Most times I`m getting around with 70-200/4 bit soft wide open. On FF/Film its awesome focal length for gigs, sometimes not so wide on digital.
