So I tried shooting from the hip and it's fucking great if you're in an area that can muffle the sound of your shutter. People don't suspect that you're taking photos of them when you have the camera by your waist pointing up.

The only problem with shooting from the hip is that you ALSO have to make it an interesting photo. Simply taking it isn't enough.

Keep trying dude, shooting from the hip requires a vast quantity of shots to get a few good ones.

You're right. But I'm just trying to show some candids I got by shooting from the hip. I'm excited I was able to get them because everyone used to notice me when I raised the camera to my face lol...

You certainly can afford to wait. The quality of your light will make or break your photo. All sorts of interesting things happen when the sun is lower.

The sun was actually pretty low. The setting sun was to the subject's right but he was in the shade and the background had the sun shining directly on it. I wasn't going to ask the gentleman to step into a more properly lit area in order to have more ambient light. You don't need to see what's in the background too much anyway because that would be distracting. As it is right now you can see that there are people and buildings which is what all I could ask for from those circumstances.
