i can't afford a bracket so i will hand hold it to the side and above me, ghetto style

Yeah, those work pretty well. Of course not as accurate or reliable as pocketwizards, but they are 20 times less expensive. So you get what you pay for. They'll do the job if you don't mind the occasional misfire.
