What does /p/ think of the Fujifilm Finepix S1000fd?

12x optical zoom, tons of manual options and only $215

too good to be true.. tell me what's wrong with this thing

Poor image quality.

When you shoot in raw, you have to wait 19 seconds between images.
I'm fucking serious.
Not a typo.

ZOMG 10x ZOOM!! THAT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT THING ABOUT CAMERAS!!

the fuji isn't that great. the canon is alright i guess. there are better cameras on the market that will give you more for you money. what do you need?

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

buying a camera based on zoom is not fucntional if you want to be a decent photog, especially if you are shopping in the sub-SLR range. the long ends of the zoom on these tend to be shitty and involve enough chromatic aberration to ruin most photos.

Well, the reason why i go omg zoom is that seems to be the only difference between the cameras i'm looking at.

I'm having a tough time deciding between getting one of those canon elph's and one of these sonsabitches. I was pretty set on this canon but the flash is slow as hell so meh, guess i'm going elph

MEGAPIXULS!!

do you really need a zoom on a point and shoot? what kind of photography do you plan on doing?

I'd rather have a fixed focal P&S with a wide aperture and small vertical swivel flash similar to the head of the SB-400. It's perfect for those low light club / indoor snapshots.

I'm the same guy clamoring for a 6mp full frame dSLR. Dammit, I should be a camera designer.

jesus, the elphs are expensive, but the canon a series are apparently slow mother fuckers, does /p/ reccomend anything else?

Oh wow, I totally skipped over the helpful posts, I'm fulfilling my role as the leach on this forum.

I need a camera for outings, the one I have right now finally broke (thank god, it's been 5 years).. My budget is $250, and I just want the best bang for my buck.

i'd recommend a fuji f40 [you can get a new one off of amazon for 175] or a canon a series or a newer panasonic lumix that doesn't have such an aggressive noise reduction system. think about it though, how much low light do you expect to shoot in? are you going to be shooting much macro stuff? how much do you care about shutter lag? do you really need more than 6 megapixels? [you probably don't need more than 6] how small do you want it? how much do you want it to weigh? do you want a bunch of novelty scene modes? blah blah blah. weigh and contrast the pros and cons of whatever you want in a camera and don't let sales pitches of other people make the decision for you. make the decision for yourself on what you need and want.

There is nothing wrong with it. My aunt just bought it and it does just great. Than panorama mode is cool, it leaves about 10% of the image in the left hand corner so you can match up what it on the lcd to the previous picture. Then it cuts it together inside the camera. Like all P&S and DSLR-like cameras it is a toy. Use it for fun but don't expect anything too great from it.

which post were you replying to? OP or what?

Asking because I was looking at the OP's camera as well. I have an older finepix E510 that's been pretty good to me.
