don't validate this by calling it art. It's just some hipster with a holga

It lacks the ugly faces and urban shit that marks a hipsterfag, I think what we have here is simply a shitty artfag.

OP, learn to x-pro or gtfo.

OP here. A-fucking-greed. This is what I get for living in the sticks where there's nothing interesting to look at.

>>134724
I love people like you who assume anyone who so much as picks up a Holga just _must_ be a fucking hipster or something. That's so fucking stupid it makes my eyes hurt.

>>134747
I need to find a lab willing to do it. All I currently have access to are those shitty one hours labs that think everything will ruin their precious process. I could probably pass a roll or two of slide off as neg with the labs around here.

If you have to use something like a holga or shitty photoshop filters to hide your shitty composition and subject and general lack of abilities at photography then you need to go back to basics and learn.

this is just as bad as the hdr cat.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>134750
I'm sure you can find interesting subjects if you work at it. If I can get interesting shots in Buffalo in the middle of winter*, you can find interesting shots out in the sticks.

(* Whether or not I can actually get interesting shots in Buffalo in the middle of winter--or in summer for that matter--is debatable. But still.)

/p/ is very angry, as I can see.

Let's kill the guy for using a Holga, that will show him.

Plus, if he was a Holgafag, his prints would be square.

ITT: People who look too deep into shit.

I'm not using a Holga to cover my "lack of abilities", I took some shots with a Holga because I fucking wanted to. Not everyone who uses the damned things is some hipster faggot who is trying to seem artistic.

What's with all of the Holga hate here, anyway? It's a fucking toy camera, people, quit taking it so seriously.
>> Anonymous
>>134756
(This is me)
I guess he was using a Holga.
I guess I just couldn't grasp the concept of someone using the 4.5x6 mask and turning the camera.

Anyway, I agree with the OP. I've taken a couple Holga shots, and they're a lot of fun. Nothing wrong with that.

Don't post pic's you took with a toy on an image board if you don't want to be called a hipster faggot.

They exist, sure, just got to find them which is the problem here. All but one of these (the flowers) were taken about 200 yards into the woods and were the most interesting things out there. Dunno if you've ever seen a southern Alabama/Mississippi/Georgia forest, but they're some of the ugliest places on Earth. Absolutely no color most of the year and tons of Spanish moss the rest of the time.

>>134756
It is a Holga, actually. 35mm shots.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>134762
Do you sleep on the ground? Presumably there is human civilization somewhere nearby. Try searching that for subjects.
>> Anonymous
>>134762

Oh! I've heard that 35mm in a Holga can be a huge pain in the ass.
To be fair though, the pictures are fairly bland, but hey, it happens.

I think people are getting too angry about the Holga aspect, however.

Right, because everyone who has ever shot a picture with a toy camera is a hipster faggot, right?

I can respect and take advice from people who actually give advice on composition and subject like AC and the like, but people like you who only criticize the camera used need to grow up and quit being so pretentious.

Feel free to call me a hipster, though, since that's totally a valid insult and everything.

And for a non-Holga image, here's something I took with a Samsung P&S S500 a few months back. In the market for a DSLR now.

Civilization, yeah, but not very interesting civilization. Not to me at least, although now that you bring that up some of the buildings and people around here would probably make pretty interesting subjects for the sheer culture-shock to anyone that's not used to it. I know I got one hell of a shock when I moved here.
>> Anonymous
A good photographer can make the shot in even in those situations. Take it as a challenge to work with rather than wish you had the usual clichéd subjects.

We don't need any more over done photos of the Eiffel tower or Niagara falls and other typical shots. If you are forced to do something different then that could be best for all. Don't give up.
>> Anonymous
>>134770

I don't believe I insulted you at all, I merely stated that you shouldn't post pictures you took with a toy camera and not expect to be called a hipster faggot.

It's a simple case of cause and effect.

I'm not sure why you're posting these godawful pictures though, unless you're a very subtle troll. Then again it's surprising the shit people upload on here at times, it's like some people are born without a sense of quality control and post anything they have.
>> Anonymous
>>134786
I'm not looking for cliched subjects, I'm looking for the exact opposite. Antique vehicles and trees aren't exactly the most original things on Earth.
>> Anonymous
>>134789
And I repeat what I said to that...
>>Right, because everyone who has ever shot a picture with a toy camera is a hipster faggot, right?

It's not a matter of cause and effect unless you're just someone who looks for a label to slap on anyone else for whatever reason. I see no correlation between toy cameras and hipsters other than the fact that a bunch of hipsters like them.

Even so, why does it fucking matter? We're all taking this too seriously, they're just pictures and they're just cameras, insulting and name-calling over what someone likes or dislikes is pretty fucking juvenile, and so is the whole "if you like toy cameras you must be a hipster" mindset.
>> Anonymous
>>134792

So what are you looking for? You are whining about there being nothing and no original subjects but perhaps you should consider looking in the mirror for the problem, not wishing you were in another state. It is your job to do something interesting. If you can't do it there you will never do it anywhere else either. Experiment.
>> Anonymous
>>134795

This is why so many art or photography courses have students take lots of pictures in their bathroom or somewhere "dull". It helps them think and train the mind.
>> Anonymous
>>134795
What makes you think I don't experiment? I don't post every picture I take, that's just a little bit too pretentious.

And I'm not complaining, just stating that interesting subjects for photos aren't very common when you live so far removed. I don't really care if the subjects are interesting to other people, I look for subjects that are interesting to me because that's who I take my pictures for. It's just a hobby for me and I like to have a little fun with it which is the reason I go for toy cameras too.

Welcome to 4chan, enjoy your stay. Your toy camera and boring photo's taken with said toy camera have branded you with the label of 'hipster faggot' - enjoy.

Toy cameras are associated with hipsters because light leaks and other failures of the camera are supposed to make the picture more 'hip' (otherwise why use the shitty things in the first place?)

You used the Holga to seem artistic because deep down you're a hipster fag who thinks the distortions it causes looks cool. There's no other reason you'd use one unless it was all you had (which we know isn't the case)

Just admit you're a hipster fag and post regular pictures that gains their merit from things *you* did, not the camera, ok?

Here's a task then;

Define what, exactly, a hipster is and what makes a hipster so bad of a person?

There's so much hatred around here for no apparent reason that it isn't even funny. Good pictures or bad pictures, doesn't matter, a Holga can still take good pictures in the hands of a good photographer. OP isn't exactly one from these pictures, but who cares?

Hey, people like crisp and well-focused pictures for the same reason that "hipsters" like soft-focused and less-than-crisp pictures. That's what they find attractive and aesthetically pleasing in a picture. Skill plays into it, yeah, but far less than it once did. Digital has made it possible for pretty much anyone to take a decent picture.

Hipster, "real" photographer, so?
>> Anonymous
When you like the light leaks or photoshop filters and shit more than the photography and subject and composition then you are no longer a photographer.

A picture of a tree from a Holga is just as lame as a picture of a tree from a Leica if they are like yours. There is more to making a good photograph than this.
>> Anonymous
>>134798

I see you learned nothing from it then. You are hopeless.
>> Anonymous
>>134814
What light leaks or filters? There are no leaks in these pictures and they weren't touched in Photoshop. Just standard shots from a Holga lens.

>>134816
So post a truly interesting picture yourself, why don't you? I know my pictures suck, that's why I posted them. Show us something of yours that makes you so superior.
>> Anonymous
>>134819

The point is why are you using a Holga? The picture of the tree is just as lame as it would be from a camera phone. Hoping that the Holga lens will perform some magic is wrong. It doesn't make a good composition or subject. You'd be better off with a DSLR or an old quality film SLR.

ok

>Define what, exactly, a hipster is

Somebody who follows anything 'hip', pretty easy definition really.

>and what makes a hipster so bad of a person?
I never said they were bad people, you're the one with the problem with hipsters.

I called the OP a hipster and a faggot, the two aren't always related. I bet he has at least a couple of vintage tees in his closet right now.

Just admit it OP

Because I had a Holga with me that I wanted to take some pictures with and my current SLR has been having some problems that I'm not knowledgable enough to fix and haven't had a chance to have it looked at yet.

I never said I hoped the Holga would do any "lens magic", that's just what you're assuming was my mindset because you're apparently biased against the pieces of shit. If I were going to actually work on composition and subject I would prefer not to use my Holga because of it's unpredictable nature, I'd rather use my SLR where I know what I can expect. The "Why use a Holga?" question comes right back when you ask me to compose and find a good subject for these kinds of pictures. Catch 22, huh?

>>134823
I don't own a single vintage shirt unless it's a band shirt for a band I actually, you know, listen to that happens to be older.
>> angrylittleboy !wrJcGUHncE
You just need more interesting subjects. People, maybe? A Holga can take good photos, but it just needs a bit more work compared to other cameras.

>Because I had a Holga with me that I wanted to take some pictures with and my current SLR has been having some problems that I'm not knowledgable enough to fix and haven't had a chance to have it looked at yet.

Use the samsung P&S instead of the camera you wanted to use because you're a hipster faggot. Explain why you bought the camera in the first place if you didn't think the effects caused by it's shittiness were 'hip'?
>> Anonymous
>>134855
You realize it's possible to like something without thinking it's "hip", right?

I like Holgas because I _personally_ like the effects. I don't like the effects because they "hide" my faults, I like the effects because they're fun ways to relax when I get bored of predictable pictures.

Why are you so obsessed with what is and isn't 'hip', you seem like more of a hipster than me for the simple fact that you're trying your hardest to be cooler than whatever is considered "hip"
>> Anonymous
>>134864
Oh, and because the SLR and Holga both have one thing in common; film. The Samsung is digital, obviously. Totally different feel and mentality for me.

Jesus Christ, Op, you're clearly a hipster faggot. Just accept it. Here, I'll help:

Hi everyone. My name's ac, and I'm a hipster faggot.

I bought a Diana at a thrift store for $5 and I occasionally use it to take pictures of things like manhole covers surrounded by grass. I think these look cool because of the swirly effects from the shitty lens, despite the fact that this picture would look boring as hell without the disputable "help" of the crappy camera.

See? Just own up to it. Accept it. You'll feel a lot better and be able to move on to something more useful and productive, like finding better things to take pictures of.
