hey /p/
I've posted a couple pictures here in the past but i come here seeking advice today. I bought a used nikon digital slr about a year ago, and i still consider myself a beginner so bear with me.

The camera came with two lenses, 70-200mm and 28-90mm. These lenses are good all around lenses but one problem that I come across is that it is hard for me to get pictures of friends and such at close range. everything 6 feet or closer comes in zoomed in.

Am I right by saying that I need a wide angle lens? I've done research and I believe what I am looking for is 18-35mm lens. Something that I can take pictures of at close range but still get a wide shot.

thanks for the advice in advance /p/

at 28mm you are close to a "normal" focal distance, meaning its close to the field of vision your eyes have. if you want to take pictures closer to things/people and have it not look so close then yes, you want a wider lens. otherwise, just step back and take the pictures.

"normal" after factoring in the crop factor that is.

OP here. thanks. I figured I could always step back but a lot of times I am in situations where space is at a premium.
