Hello /p/.

I haven't seen you guys in a while. I have final critique Wednesday on my self portrait project.

Any last second jabs before I go in? Be harsh.

On a side note, if you don't like the borders, you're in luck, because I didn't include them in my final prints.

Oh and also, taken with Fuji 400 speed film, scanned in with a negative scanner and processed in Photoshit.

they are all incredibly flat and dull. if that is indeed your personality then you should get a perfect score. also, 3 of the pictures have you with hands in pocket and looking away. thats too much of the same thing.

i see that 6th picture you posted down there, and its the same. i can barely see anything, but i can tell you have your hands in your pockets and are looking away. seriously. stop that. and even though there is that entire hallway, the picture has no depth at all.

I have more that are included in the final critique but I've already posted them here before.

They're behind my back.

The locations are interesting and the background composition is fine, but then the eyes reach you and you just look bored. You make me think of a person in an otherwise beautiful vacation picture; you're an external component, distracting from the mood and the interest of the scene. Unnatural poses. I can see going for a sense of loneliness and disconnection from your environment, but it still feels off.

Props for doing a theme shoot, BUT overall I think the pics are a tad flat, You as a model = not the greatest. You look emotionless in 90% of the pics and well a bit boring.

This one IMO is the best, but just because of the abstracting stairs from the odd angle.

I think your teacher will eat them up however, so at least you will impress someone, However /p/ will fail to be impressed I imagine.

Oddly enough that kind of goes with my intention.

I want it to be more about the environment than about me. Like.. I want to be a compositional element in the photograph, not the subject of the entire thing.

The only reason I started taking self portraits is because I was taking pictures with no people at all; I wished I had a model to stick in there as a compositional element but I didn't, so I just used myself.

Fair enough, but it does get monotonous. Overall nice though. Certainly a good effort.

why the fuck does everything look fake?

Very nice. I love the locations but as everyone else has pointed out, you're very emotionless. I don't see how there's much you can do to fix this now seeing how this is due on Wednesday but besides that I like the photos.

Just work on including more emotion into it next time.

I like the locations a lot and the compositions overall are just fine. However, it would be really good if you straightened them. A lot of your locations have vertical and horizontal lines, but are crooked and/or bowed from the camera lens. Some photoshop can fix that right up.

Focus is way too soft, you should've focused on a friend or something first.

Because your eyes are broken?

I agree with you on that, but it's not because of the focus; they're all night time/dim light shots, meaning I had to use a long exposure. No matter how focused I was, the long exposure captured the slightest bit of movement with my heard even when I was trying to hold as still as possible. It resulted in some blurring.

Live and learn I guess. I should point out that I'm a freshman, so these are by no means job-winning photographs. Just stepping stones for development.

you look like fucking gary sinise.

the last photo is good, the rest are kind of meh. self-portraits are difficult. they're usually either really narcissistic or shy. depends on your personality.

He's not half bad looking, so thanks.

And yeah.. I was a little hesitant to post self portraits here for fear of people thinking I love myself.

Then why is the environment soft focus too?

...it is?

Might be the grain, since I used 400 speed.
