hay /p/,
I've only ever used digital cameras in my photography, so I'm looking to diversify to something of a different quality.
The whole lomo thing looks neat (nifty vignetting) and the Holga is pretty cheap and looks fun. Try new things right?

But where can I find a place to develop the 120 format film? Do normal film places develop it? The idea of developing it myself is a little scary. Is shipping it to a lab a possible idea?

Thanks :D

Shipping to a lab is possible, although I don't have any suggestions for one off the top of my head. Your corner drugstore won't do 120, but there's a reasonable chance that a good camera/photography store will. Look around for one that sells 120--they'll probably process it, too. But ask first, just in case.

yeah a lot still do. most c-41/e-6 film processors take all sorts of film, it may just depend if the shop offers the service or has the right adapters.

please note the holgas are very craply made and will leak light. i know this is meant to be the point but they charge far too much for how shit the cameras are built.

Yeah this is kindof whats holding me back. If the camera is going to be intentionally shitty, I'm not really big on paying for it as if it was good.
Maybe just buy one on ebay? =p

Get one off of eBay rather than buying it from the Lomographic Society and you should be fine.

there are many types of holga ...some better than others.

Another idea if'n you want to try out medium format goodness would be to get an old TLR. I got mine (a Yashica A) for about $40. All the inconvenience of a Holga, but they can take really good pics.
