Camera Dilemma Anonymous
Hey I work at recreational services at a college and we are buying a new camera to use during sporting events.

I don't know the first thing about highend cameras but my boss told me to do some research on the Rebel XTi and XSi.

What do you guys know and think about these cameras.

tl;dr basically i need to choose either a rebel XSi or XTi.

Probably right. You'll need a telephoto (zoom) lens if you are going to photograph sporting events. Something that goes up to 300mm should do good enough. The XTi should be enough for what you're doing, so that and a nice zoom lens should go good.

Awesome thanks for the help. Post more if you or anyone else thinks of anything.

Also what about the Nikon D60?

-those are not high end cameras
-listen to your boss and GO DO SOME FUCKING RESEARCH. Is 4chan the top hit on google for 'what camera do I buy' or something? Why the hell are you here?
-sage
-what sport? is it chess? no? team? solo? inside? outside?
-your budget might be relevant information, don't you think?
-sage
-the camera doesn't matter. the lens does. but you knew that right? because by now you must have done some of that FUCKING RESEARCH...
-choke on a dick

For sports, here's what to consider:

Canon: 40D or the new 50D. Look into a 70-200 f/2.8 lens, don't bother with the IS version. If you don't want to spend that much, the 70-200 f/4 non-is is good too but the fast f/2.8 aperture comes in handy in low-light.

Nikon: Find a used D200 or get a deal on one brand new. If you can, get the D300. Get the 80-200 f/2.8D lens with this, or the 70-200 f/2.8 AF-S VR if you've got the cash. There's cheaper zooms that aren't as fast, like the 70-300 VR and would do nicely if you're shooting in good light a lot.

If you really need to choose between the XTi and XSi, get the XTi and spend the saved cash on lenses.

They're pretty much the same, save the XSi has more megapickles.
