Nikon D80 sometimes blatantly overexposes! Anonymous
So I'm always getting tshernobyl -like images first when I go out shooting. Then the camera does something and fixes itself.

It's pretty annoying and I have no idea what I'm doing wrong :D

Looks like your light sensor array might be intermittent. You might want to have that checked out.

I know you don't want results like that, but that picture actually looks pretty cool.

How on earth did you have enough light for 1/800@F14, 100ISO?
>> Nipplelesshorse
my D80 seems to this a lot too.

is this a common problem with the d80? im looking at getting one, i've already heard about the Matrix(?) auto preset being buggy but did'nt know about this. Is it a problem with manufacturer or the photographer?

you might wanna give Nikon support a call and have it checked out.

I have a D70s and a friend recently got his dad's old D70, i took him out for a day of shooting... but his D70's matrix was somehow fucked. I put both our cameras on Aperture Priority and shot at the setting under similar light but his camera insisted on going about 10 stops slower than my shutter... so he got white washing everywhere... so we just swapped cameras and i put his on MANUAL, problem solved. (well not really, he's still waiting to hear back from Nikon)

So unless you plan to shoot in Manual all the time, get it checked out.

My D80 performs perfectly fine. The matrix issue only rears its head when taking a picture of a dark object with a bright background.. Which is easily corrected by knocking the exposure down slightly.

Aside from this, I've never had any overexposure problems with my D80 - It's been all good since I've had the camera.
