Greetings /p/,

Got into photography a few months ago, what do you all think of this? Took this in December, when it was actually still cold.

Hmm, I thought it had EXIF. Guess I was wrong. Try this one then, Anon.

this is actually surprisingly good. almost suspiciously good for a baby years old beginner. post the other two or three that you took right before this one (the ones you wouldn't show to anyone else or post on flickr), so we'll know you actually took this.

Sure, here's another one.

cool.

alright, like i said, your first photo is actually surprisingly good. one of the better pictures posted on /p/ in recent weeks. the colors are excellent, the composition is pretty good. the only thing holding it back is that giant glaring weed in the lower left corner. it's too distracting. that, and you split the frame right in half with that horizon. i would have done 2/3 ground, 1/3 sky.
>> Anonymous
>>117876

Thanks. I agree about the weed in the corner. As for the composition, the idea was that I wanted to keep the boat in the bottom left corner, and if I had put the horizon higher, it would show even more of the ground which wouldn't be very interesting.

square crop maybe?

If I had taken this, it would be on my wall by now. Unfortunately I suck at photography still and only have one picture I am really proud of in owning my camera for a little under a year. Nice job.

Not to hijack the thread at all, but here you go.

I wanted to take a picture of this little girl because she looked like a Little Sister from Bioshock. She ended up noticing me and posing. Only PP is resize.

Shit I remember this pic, Everyone was impressed over the 1/20th of a second pic (that was still sharp)
though I didn't think Bioshock was out when that picture was originally posted... (Exif data is today for the date, But obviously thats not true)

Time PARADOX?
>> Anonymous
>>118176
Original (non-resized) date was from 9/22/07. Bioshock was released on 8/21/07 in the US.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>118186
Bah my memory is bad. Oh well I'm still amazed 1/20th and sharp.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>118252

was it an IS lens?

I took a shot at 4/5th of a second and it was pretty sharp and NO BODY said anything nice to me.

...BAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWW......
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>118254
Its not VR if thats what you mean. I think this was the 18-135?

Repost the pic, i'll decide if i'm impressed :) (Though in this pic motion blur by the subject is more of a problem than camera shake, so thats another reason to be impressed)

yeah of course i meant VR... for some reason i thought it was a Canon lens. Silly me.

Oh i must state for the record. Photo was edited in two ways.

1. Lightroom = Blue light changed into Red
2. CS 2 = crop into 8x10 and resize.

Aside from that, not extra sharpening or nothing. Just got lucky with manual focus.

>>118274
No one mentioned it because:

A) We know you're a good photographer, and you hand-holding something well isn't a huge shock.
B) It's a good enough photograph that I don't think anyone bothered to pour over the EXIF.
C) That whole banding issue with people's monitor calibration took up all the technical side of the discussion of it.
D) Boob versus little kid. All the pedophiles are on /b/.

Is this a different crop from when you first posted it? I seem to recall it being in a wider aspect ratio.
>> Anonymous
>>118277
Nevermind about the crop; you answered it while I was posting.

Could you post the uncropped version? I think I remember it looking better that way.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM

ha... that wasnb't the actual version.

That last one was actually the one i darkened in raw shooter so i could get rid of the 'supposed' banding.

Here is the proper.

Didn't mean to sound like i was whinging... :(

sorry sorry :D

But ... boob versus little kid? We were at a 18+ venue... do you mean the first silhouette? They were all adults, but i do agree that it kinda looks like a kid.

Also i never posted the original crop. Only this one. I did post the original blue however, so here it is.

Believe me, i tried.

I just set the focusing distance to 60cm as i guestimated that's how far away from her i was.

Couldn't autofocus because the D70s hunts like a fuck even with my 50mm 1.4D at night... pretty much only the centre focal point is useful any other time aside from daylight.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>118285
Woah, That is sharp for 0.8 seconds.
Colour me impressed.I never saw this pic before!
For low light venues like that the Sigma 30mm f1.4's HSM makes focusing a LOT easier.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>118308

Would it? the combo of the large aperture and HSM?

Cause i took the shots with the 17-55mm 2.8.. and even with it's lighting fast AF-S the D70s' own AF system was still a huge let down. I'm more serious about the D300 now. Or if i can win a local competition which will give me a D80, cause i'd settle for that till the next FX camera came out.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>118308

Cheers btw! :D One of those moment where i breathed really shallowly and held arms stiff like i was an 80's breakdancer.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>118311
Mostly because of the HSM, I think the D70s's max aperture is f2.5 (Do a depth of field preview wide open and stop down untill you notice a change)
Its still not perfect, but it works. I use my D50 in nasty lighting conditions. And it misses a lot, but thats ok, Cause I'm usually there for like 5-6 hours. (Clubs / Raves)

Also same with me, Waiting on an FX camera body thats smaller and cheaper than the D3 :)
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>118318

With club shots i've ususally got the Sb-600 or the Sb-800 with me, and that shit helps focusing with that infrared crap.

For the ambient stuff i just change it to spot metering and overexpose a bit to get the freaking lazer beams and freakin lights.

I'm really hoping Nikon announces that FX camera soon :D

I didn't think you were whinging; it was an explanation, not a rebuke. Sorry if I came off like that.

I meant comparing your incredibly well-focused and hence detailed shot of an incredible breast to the little girl in this picture>>118162, the one that got all the comments.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>118325

Fair point, boob to child probably aint the best.

I'll just keep my whore mouth shut next time.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>118324
Woah even I won't risk taking the SB-600 into the clubs / raves, that would get broken in an hour. I could wear a belt and hook the Flash pouch on it, But another problem is the events I go into won't let big fancy camera's in, so I would probably have to dump the flash anyway.

OP, is this Annie?
