Hey /p/als

I'm on the edge of buying a new reflex.

I was going for the Nikon D40 + 2 lenses + bag for 629$ (CDN), but realized that's it's simply not good at all VS. the D60. The only thing that was interesting was the 2 lenses (18-55 and 50-200) that could bring some kind of variety of shots.

So I'm not really too sure what to get. The D60 is 629$ with a VR lens..

tl;dr : Tell me what reflex cam should I buy, must be under 700$ and come with a lens.

picture kinda related, this is my GF taken by myself with a Nikon F3

I don't think you have a girlfriend, that is a corpse you stole from the mortuary.

Enjoy your necrophilia.

D40 is crap.

You should be looking at focal lengths and apertures and comparing that to your requirements, not just "a lens", with or without VR.

Well I'm mainly looking for something affordable, and there's not a wide variety of cheap stuff and different apertures/lengths. It's mostly 18-55 and F3.5

Get the D80. You can pick that up cheap now the D90's here.
I assume you have something like a 50/1.8
You can use that with the D80, lose af on the D40.
If not you can pick it up for cheap.

You think my F3 lenses will mount on the D80/D60?

If you're really not sure, just look at images from both in different situations.
See how big the difference in IQ is, and if you decide they're pretty similar, just go to the shop and see which you like the feel of better.

Personally I think it's shit. I'd get a real camera body you can use your FM3's lenses with without being crippled. If there's anything Nikonfags have huge balls about its the fact that their lens mount works for old lenses as well as new ones. Dont buy one that cripples this, you'll end up having to buy a higher level body eventually if you do. Buying a D40/60 = buying a D40/60 and THEN buying a D80 or D90 later on when you realize the D40/60 is shit.

Would you have a link to that my kind Anon?

Will I see a huge difference if I use my F3 lenses on a D80 for instance? And will it mount?

Here is what I have :

-Nikkor 28mm 1:2.8 746934
-Nikkor 105mm 1:2.5 969993

those are not even autofocus, so it doesn't matter at all on any body you use

and they won't meter unless you have a D200 and up

so technically, you don't lose anything with the D40 and D60, but step up to the D70 or D80 if you can, for future lens purchases, not for your old ones

Save a couple more weeks and get a D200 or better.
Moving from a flagship to the low end is only going to drive you mad
