Plastic Cameras Genuine Bipolar
hey /p/,
was wondering if anyone out there was a plastic and diy camera enthusiast or if all had switched to digital. Right now I use a ricoh af7, a holga 120n, an altoids camera, a two and a half foot long pinhole, several smaller single shot camera, and a couple of polaroids modified with 35mm.

am I just overdoing it, or is this considered a legitmate use of film.
here's a photo from my ricoh.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
Are you enjoying yourself? Then it's legitimate.
>> Anonymous
Looks like you have a giant light leak in your Ricoh.
>> elf_man !!DdAnyoDMfCe
That image looks like hell, but hey, shoot what you like. Put enough time in, you may produce something others will like as well.
Do what you love. What else can you hope for?
>> Genuine Bipolar
its not a light leak just bad processing. and i guess i enjoy doing it, it just makes we wonder if the photos are any good or if they're just shit.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
I like em, do what you want not what everyone else wants.

(fuck the man!)

Can't really tell from this shot. Post more. Expect a few "shitsux lol" posts. That's to be expected.

i like the colors lol

I love using toycams and pinholes.
However, they/we don't seem to be accepted as valid a lot due to the rush of the hipster faggots from the Lomography crowd.

I have fun though, so I ignore it and continue to do as I please. I don't submit my stuff to /p/ because I know I'll get more "YOURE A FAG" flaming responses than the usual "This part sucks" responses, which actually help.

Man up and post. Just ignore the flames. Everyone gets 'em.

Just post. Don't name the camera, just the film/shooting info.
>>170414
Post more so we can actually get a sense of your style/skill level.

This too. I've posted a lot from toy cameras, didn't tell, and replies were as normal.

I used to have a toy camera, but it died. I'm in the process of building one, actually. Grinding the lens as we speak.

Remember what I ( I know, anon, could get to be a tripfag later maybe?) mentioned about some weird ass camera, with a shutter calculated to run at around 1/200s, with an absurdly high aperture lens?

That was me. hehe. I'm using crystalline casting resin for the lens, making blanks with it and lathing them down by hand and some tools (no power tools though).

Since I don't have access to glass or more complex crystalline materials, I'm not able to even make doublets (or dont know how yet at least) but that means my high aperture lens is going to have some massive chroma, very likely shitty resolution and whatnot. Worth a shot though isn't it?

So far, I have the focal plane shutter mechanism down, and a fairly good idea on the construction of the aperture ring, but I have to finish the lens first to figure out how big my camera really is going to be.

It's -looking- like a 50~mm lens, and it's around 52mm in diameter so it's probably going to be fairly bright. I cannot -know- however, what the exact measure will be though, until I finish grinding and polishing this plastic. (edge not beveled/cleaned yet, it's still a bit sharp, but might keep it to be able to hold the lens in retaining rings etc etc.)

In any case, still have a long way to go, but I'll post up more about it once I'm closer to the finishing line. :)

Btw, it's not the first lens I've made out of this material, so I have a pretty good feeling about this, it's coming up nicely.

Fuck. King. Win.

Eagerly anticipate the end results.

Certainly will post. :)

Op here, sorry lost my glasses for a few hours, will post some more finished work when i get back to my studio in about an hour or two.
thank you for all the comments, and i most definitely enjoy the idea of full building ones own camera. most definitely awesome.

Interesting. I like how they fit together. Was this taken with a panorama or double shot camera? Also, I like the color in both of these pictures.
>> Genuine Bipolar
they're from my ricoh, and i just stood in one spot and looked left and took the first one, then rotated my head until the edge of the first shot was on the opposite side and took the other. i took about ten i would say like this, but its pretty highly inaccurate. as for the colours i scan the negatives into photoshop and then just the filters to normal, but i dont have a film scanner so its backlit with a flourescent light. perhaps thats part of the reason for the extreme colours.

i would like to but its really expensive to buy film and process. it really tempting to have a go at making my own lenses and using them for a digital, because its so much more awesome being involved in making a integral part to photograph, instead of only using lenses that someone with a weird name designed and then it got mass produced in a factory. tips and pics would be awesome.

That box is badass, and that's a nice lens. Are you able to focus it though? D:

Okay, I'm back guys, after 12 hours of grinding and sanding, I'm finally done with this bitch. On the good side, I wasnt too far off on my expectations. On the bad side, this lens in particular is a bad sample, I'm going to have to make another one. Picture 100% related.

Takes a fuckton of work, at least by hand, I can tell you that much. My arm already aches, and it's going to be a raging bitch tomorrow, I bet. haha

The artifacts in the middle of the lens were a disappointment though; bothersome delay. At least, though, I have data to work with now to make the aperture and focusing systems.

Well, it's not like it's ubersharp or anything... not like mine will be either but... hehe

I still haven't figured out how to make double/multiple element lenses... I dont have access to a negative index lens material either... which kinda sucks : (
