Gorgeous. That smile is something special. Thank god I was tired and not really paying attention at the time, otherwise I would've spent the whole day talking to her!

Oh, by the way, taken with the incredibly cheapo lens I just bought from B & H: a Tamron 28-200 f/3.8-5.6. It's got some noticeable chromatic aberration, and is a little soft and XBOX HUEG, but for $90? I LOVE IT. :D

Another from that day of shooting, and the Tamron bargain-bin lens.

Great picture.

I can't really comment on the girl's smile because, every time I try to, even typing, I get all flustered and stammery.

Whatever dude, I love your medium format stuff, I'm extremely jealous and at the same time inspired to try my hand at it. I'm such a newb.

You are right about the beautiful women thing though. Austin, TX: greatest women in the world. It's really cliché though, I'm dating one of my models. Pic related.

Sooo how did you approch your target???
I mean what did you say to her to let you take a picture of her?
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
>>42863
1st photo: walked up to her, smiling, slowly, asked if I could take her picture. She smiled back and you have the picture. It's really that easy.
2nd photo: Buddhas don't give a shit.
3rd photo: I had a media pass because I was shooting for a magazine, so I had complete access to the fashion show (except for the changing tents during the show, damnit. Too many tits, apparently. Would've made for some great photos) But no one minded me because I stayed out of the way, was silent, and wasn't creepy. Lurking is a bad idea. Let them know you're there, and then they forget about you.
4th photo: Asked her for her picture against the flowers, explained that I really liked how they matched beautifully (protip: use the word beautiful a lot! It's taken a lot better than "U LUK HAWT"), took a few rather lame posed shots, she asked to see one of my cameras I had hanging off my shoulder, I gave it to her, she just lit up and thought it was so cool, and I got the unposed, natural picture. Very nice.
5th photo: She's my girlfriend, it doesn't get much easier than that. Still use the word beautiful a lot :D

This photo: I've learned one important thing about street people: you have to let them know that you're not one of the countless people that walk by them every day. Don't try to act like "one of them" or some pretentious shit like that, because you're not, just treat them normally. With this shot, I didn't start shooting first, but walked up, smiled at his flute-carving, introduced myself, told him my name, shook his hand firmly, then asked if I could take his picture. He asked the standard, "Sure, can you spare a buck or two?" It's not a bad idea to do that, but I honestly didn't have any on me, so I apologized and told him, "I'm a starving artist too, man, I wish I could help out. I'll make you immortal though!" with a laugh. We talked for a good five minutes while I took his picture, and then I shook hands again and left. Do this often enough, and you'll get introduced to their friends, and accepted by that crowd. Good pictures follow. A lot of photography is personality.

ITT AC and heavyweather verbally fellating each other.

(In before Same Person)

I'm in Buffalo. If there are hot chicks here, they're covered in way too many layers for most of the year for you to tell.

My girlfriend is also my primary model. Pic related.

That reminds me.. you never did tell us which was the digital and which was the film when you posted the two versions of this pic..

And now you've posted this, I can't remember which of the two this one was.. d'oh!
>> ac
>>42885
This is actually a slightly different one, but from the same set. This one's digital (as you can see by the exif). In the other thread, the first one was film, the second one digital, as I recall. The film one was the one with her face centered in the frame.

(You can also tell which one's the film one because my girlfriend has a "Stop fiddling with the focus knob and take the damn picture" look on her face. I can catch a lot more natural expressions with digital because I can shoot without having to spend a lot of time setting up each shot and worrying that I'm going to waste a frame. Which is ironic, really)

hey guyz can i play too? i love both of your work. it is way better than mine. i find the photographical aspects of it to be much more photographical than those in my photographs. here is one photograph of mine, which lacks much of the high, high quality of yours. both of you.

One of my girlfriend's friends. I really like this shot because it's got a neat sort of film-noir feel to it, although the shadow over her face is unfortunate. But it's hard to shoot in a car by streetlights while the car's moving, so I was just happy to get a sharp one.

(Part of the reason I'm posting this is to bump this thread so the OP image is on the front page again...)

No, I have no clue what that thing is.

Basically, she had those little wind-up lullaby cylinder piano things soldered onto the outside of this massive iron cone. It was, in effect, a massive bullhorn. The very, very faint music from the machines was amplified to be very loud if you stood at the opening. The whole thing was on wheels and could be moved fairly easily.

It was a work of profound brilliance and whimsy, and I'm sure I came perilously close to falling in love.
