>>101721 The light meter takes so little power to operate that, back in the days of mechanical film SLRs that used the battery only to run the meter, people would run on the same battery for years at a time. The power used by the light meter is lost in the rounding error when calculating the power used to flip the shutter, much less the power used to drive the sensor or the LCD.
If you really want to minimize the power usage, turn off the LCD and focus manually. But seriously, you don't have to worry about running out a single battery in an SLR unless you're seriously spraying the hell out of a room.
If you're shooting in low light, you're pretty much going to keep your aperture at its maximum (i.e., lowest number) the whole time. So use Tv mode (which will make the camera pick the widest aperture, and probably blink at you because it's upset that it can't get an aperture wide enough to expose properly) or M mode (which will be functionally identical in this situation, but less whiny)
