How do you organize your pictures? Anonymous
People have their own way of organizing with different programs, but how do _you_ organize in Windows? I've tried to keep them in separate folders for the longest time, but the shear number of photos I'm collection just makes me not want to care; and now my folders look like an organized piece of unholy shit.

So, what program do you use to organize/sort and how do you personally organize your pictures?

Whenever I come back from a .. photo day or a photo shoot. I use the camera function to upload the pictures into a folder like.. '2007_10_07'
I then delete whatever didn't turn out, make a new folder within that folder with my shooped stuff.
For viewing, cutting.. pasting and everything I use ACDsee

I download them to my computer when I get home. If it was a major (say, paid) event I'll burn a copy to DVD immediately.

Then I put them into a directory like "2008_02_20 - Skateboarding in Tempe" to both make it easier to know what's what, as well as separate things that happen on the same day.

If a photo is bad (off-focus, accidental shutter, whatever) I will delete it. If there is a chance that Lightroom or Photoshop can save the photo, even if I know my own skills can't do it yet, I keep it. This keep/delete is done in Lightroom.

If you're too lazy to use folders what makes you think a program is going to help?

I used to put them into folders by date and event, but now I import through lightroom and add a few keywords during import to identify the event and/or location photographed. Lightroom puts them into folders by date, but for later use I just open Lightroom and plug either the date or a keyword into the search bar.

Create folders for the subject of photo. Then use Picasa to view.

I have a folder on my computer specifically for my pictures, and a separate folder for each day I've taken pictures within it.

Each individual day folder I just name with the day, so for example, the folder named "1 20 08" would have all the pictures I took on January 20th, 2008 in it.

I use something like: Photographs/D80/2008/2008-02-21 - Test crap/_DSC3959.NEF

Then I have subfolders in there for processed photos from raw editor (like lightroom), photoshop & web-size pictures..

Easy and neat. Only grief is lack of HD space. I should shoot less but better photos and delete all the excess shit which has piled up some day...

I use the same method as a couple of the other posters. I copy all photos to a sub-folder of the "My Pictures" folder. Folder name is the date and a description e.g. "2008-02-12 Beach Day".

I use the windows camera wizard to copy the photos in from the camera. But I use picasa to view photos and for simple edits. It's much easier than using windows to view.

The other thing to mention is I sometimes backup to CD or DVD in which case the backed-up ones get their folder moved to "My Pictures"\backed up\. That way I can tell what folders need backing up the next time I get around to it.
