It's been on the rumour mill since March this year... actually even before that. It was meant to be announced in March... but nothing happened.

The wait has been about 15 months actually

lol oops typo, Canon. There was suppose to be a press release on it on june 26th, but I have not seen anything about it...

The pic is totally bogus, though I wouldn't be too surprised to see a camera of those specifications in the not too distant future.

As realistic as that sounds I think a 12MP 8fps 1.1x crop sensor would be far more usefull. (With optional 1.5x crop mode)

19MP is overkill, but 5fps is already current technology, So why not upgrade that a bit to compete with Canons 10fps. Also theres a lot of good DX lenses that Nikon offers, I don't think they would throw that idea out so quickly, So keeping a 1.5x crop would make sense.

There is no way on earth that Nikon would build an ergonomic nightmare like that monstrosity. They are the kings of ergonomics and camera body design. I love my Canon gear, but Nikon bodies are ergonomically far, far better.

I'll bet good money that the D3 series is going to look and handle like the D2 series, and it will still be a 1.5x crop camera. I'll also bet that the improvements will come in the form of bigger buffer, better sensor dynamic range and noise reduction, and maybe a small boost in resolution to around 15MP.

19MP 5FPS fullframe Nikon? No way. They can barely manage 5FPS on the 12.4MP 1.5x crop D2Xs. Even Canon hasn't built a fullframe DSLR that does better than 4FPS, and Canon is far ahead of Nikon in sensor design.

Meh. Sorry, I disagree. The D40's review mechanism SUCKS compared to Canon's. I spent 10 minutes playing with one and I still couldn't figure out how to zoom in+out and move through the photos.

The owner of said camera, and a mutual friend who was present and sells both Canon and Nikon, agreed. Canon's interface for almost everything is better. Nikon offers more toys (I'm envious over the AF tracking mode control in Nikons), but Canon's got useability licked. Ergonomically, let's please stop sniffing the glue: both manufacturers produce bodies which are nearly identical in shape. Just like everyone else...

the buttons with the magnifying glass and the + and - signs werent a hint? and did you perhaps try using the arrows and scroll wheel to move through photos?

Ergonomics does not refer to how easy it is to zoom in and scroll through pictures. Which other than zooming in is quite simple..

I've never played with the mark III's or D2x / D2H's, BUT
from playing with a D50, D70s, D200, D80 D40 and D100 on the nikon side
And a 30D, XT, XTi and 20D on the Canon side, I have to say as far as comfort and feel, The D200 and D50 are clear winners for me (Sans battery packs)

They are not only comfortable, But on the D200 A few motions can change almost every setting imagineable on the camera, And Its an extremely confidence inspring hold. (no worrys about slipping etc)
It makes the D40 seem like a toy though, I wouldn't ever recommend that over say a D50 or D70s.

Xt and Xti are probably the worst IMO, And the 30D is my favorite on the Canon side, Especially with a decent telephoto on it (70-200 IS).

Agreed. I actually wanted to go Canon when i first went in to Digital SLR territory, even though i had film Nikon stuff, which i was content to leave with the setup i had...

but after playing with the 350D and 30D... wow... the ergonomics sucked donkey balls. I attacked the 70-200 f4 on the 350D and i swear holding the camera made me fear that i was going to snap it due to the sheer flimsiness of the Digital Rebel.

Nikons on the other hand felt great... so it was actually really hard to convince myself that i wanted Nikon instead.

But much like the menu system outlay. This is subjective. I'm sure alot of people will agree with me on the Nikon having better ergonomics, but of course there will be people who disagree.

The menu system is something that people get use to after a while, i mean i could grab a 400D now and say 'oh what the fuck, this menu system is shit' but mostly like because i'm used to another system... and not a reflection of a supposed flaw.

>I'm envious over the AF tracking mode control in Nikons
Is this referring to something more than just having the autofocus mechanism continuously update to follow a moving subject? Because Canons can do that too...

No he was referring to the massive amount of focus, release, and dynamic AF tracking options available in the higher up Nikon systems.
Read up on Multicam 1000, and Multicam 2000.

Canon has most of the same options but there are advantages to the Multicam 2000 over The Canon systems, The Mark III might have changed that, but Its brand new and I haven't read up on it (too expensive anyway)
