Vivitar 285HV + ebay wireless triggers.
>> VF-19
Do you want wireless, or just a simple flash that'll work with a wireless trigger?

I also second the Vivitar 285 HV with a wireless trigger. Just make sure that the wireless trigger is designed to fit the 285. Vivitar doesn't use the standard plug...

Also make absolutely sure you're getting a HV, not a regular 285. A regular 285 will cook your K10D. A 285 HV won't.

On wireless, the eBay triggers are nothing if not inconsistent. Some have no trouble, some find them a pain in the butt. If you're willing to go up from $30 or so to $130, AlienBees' wireless setup seems well-received.

I use the AF-540FGZ- it's s good deal more than the Vivitars, but it wirelessly syncs with the camera and has a bit more oomph. Also, P-TTL if you're into that kind of stuff...

vivitar uses standard hot shoes, what are you talking about

The made in Japan 285HVs will fry your camera too. Gadget Infinity on ebay sell 285HVs and wireless triggers that work well with the 285HV. Also, the flash comes with a short sync cord (the sync port on the vivitar is non-standard).

I meant the plug that you attach the PC cord to. I would have stated the non standard hotshoe if I meant the shoe (like Minolta and sony's move).

Really? I had a 285 HV that was made in Japan, and it's sync volltage was under the limit... Stupidly sold it to get a Sigma EF-530 DG super... Should have kept the 285 AND got the Sigma...

PC sync is universal, what are you talking about

... I must have been more tired than I thought I was when posting that... The cord that your plug into your camera to mount the Vivitar flashes off camera, the end that goes into the Vivitar flash is not standard. It can only fit a Vivitar flash.

I still have no idea if that's clear enough...

having two myself i know exactly what you are talking about.

for the op go to ebay and search flash trigger and buy some of the cheap wireless flash triggers. ive had mine for a year or so and they are fucking awesome.

Oh good. It's confirmed, then. I must be an idiot.

I'd better shout this from the rooftops...

Also, I'd better check my cords too before posting...

The 285 HV will work with any camera that has a standard hotshoe (Minolta and Sony do not use a standard hot shoe).

Slap it on, turn it on, set your aperature on the lens and shoot away!
