1. Buy yourself a Hoya R72 to fit your lens of choice. Probably wanna go with your fastest one.

2. Get a tripod

3. Resign yourself to some long-ass exposures, even in broad daylight.

Yes. Get yourself some cheap old SMC primes. They're FANTASTIC lenses, and sell for cheap on eBay. Look for the 50mm SMC-A f/2, or better yet, the f/1.7 version. The 28mm f/2.8 SMC-M is a great lens too.

Perhaps I just haven't seen any good examples...

The only difference between us is that I have the K10D. (Body, 18-55, 50-200, 4GB 150x SD card, bag, USB 2.0 SD card reader, and some random stuff, too.) The vertical grip (battery grip) was a must-have for me, plus I liked the weather sealing and the feel of the camera.

The K10D, as I've been told by various sources, doesn't work well for IR photography...
http://www.dimagemaker.com/article.php?articleID=880 is supposed to be a IR test on the K100D using a Hoya R72 filter, but the internet connection I'm on doesn't like certain domains (such as Google) and never loads them for some reason.
