Would you guys give up a little bit of color clarity and resolution for multiple angles? I'm looking to buy two decent cameras instead of one really good camera so I can take two angle shots.

This goes for a video cameras, I want to take footage of kids playing and edit it together using two angles. Both will be the same model, so I expect things to look pretty similar.

They're my kids. Is it odd that I want to take videos of my kids?

Do you plan on masturbating to them later?

So do you guys think I should go with the one really nice camera or the two decent cameras?

What will the color correction and adjustment be like with the built-in software?

How do you plan on using two cameras? Two tripods? How are you going to control both at once?

Are your kids hot?

Most of the time a tripod for one and me or my wife holding the other.

Otherwise, one is never really gonna be dead center unless the kids are playing near the center of the living room.

But there are lights right above their play area.

shooting with your left and right hand at the same time?
didn't know it was possible.. considering 99.9% of cameras are right handed. ( dont know of any left handed )

Seems like a big fucking waste to me. I mean, what are you really going to need total coverage of your kids for? You're never going to watch all of the videos and your kids sure won't give a fuck about them.

/p/ stands for photography
not obsessed parent videography

For stills, the two camera thing is useless. Just move yourself over some and get another shot.

For video, it's really your only option, unless you want to stop recording, move over, and start again.

I'd say that videography falls under the overall photography umbrella. It's the same basic principles of still photography, you just take a shitload of frames and also record sound.

Well, they're definitely related, but you'll compose those frames entirely differently.

This is the best board for these sorts of questions, though. Where else would it go? /Tv/?

I'm not sure about *entirely* differently. Next time you're watching a good TV show or a movie by a good director, pay closer attention to the composition of each scene. You'll see a lot of Rule of Thirds and leading lines and whatnot.

The main difference is just that you've got a few more dimensions to deal with in your composition, since you have to deal with your framing moving (during pans) and your subject moving within that frame.

The basic principles for all visual art holds true, but there's a fundamental difference between composing for a static moment and composing where people will be moving during the take.

Ever use somebody's momentary arm placement geometrically in a composition? That won't work with motion pictures. On the other hand, having someone actually moving around or talking or whatever can make what would be a boring still composition a good one.

Agreed. Just saying that they're not *completely* different.

I've seen some video produced by someone who's first or primary interest was photography. It's interesting how the ways this alters the way they shoot is quite noticeable.

It'll be like those porn DVDs where you can change angle!

on a fucking unrelated note

was /p/ down for anybody else?

it was for me

you dont need two cameras OR a really nice camera. just but a cheap HDV camcorder. sorry, but no one wants to see your kids opening birthday presents and two angles or high clarity wont change that. it sounds like youre just over exciting yourself on the idea of getting a camera. capturing your kids growing up is a great idea, but youre just wasting money taking it that far.

Some people probably do. But you don't, under any circumstances, want to let them do so.
