Nikon D1 Anonymous
Before I even start my story, I'll say, yes I know megapixels don't matter and that 6 MP is about what everyone needs. Anything extra is just there for cropping. Well, kind of.

Anyway, so I was attending this corporate event thing and they had a professional photographer there to take pictures. I'm a Canonfag and I see he's using a Nikon pro body, and immediately, I think zOMG is that some D3?

I go and ask him but turns out it's a D1, so I'm just thinking, okay it's probably like a 1D mark 1.

I come home and check online and find out the D1 is 2.74 MP. Yeah, yeah, MP isn't everything. But isn't that a bit excessive in the wrong way? Does this guy just not print anything larger than a 4"x6"? Or does he just resample the files in Photoshop?

big papers dont need super high res either. newspapers have some of the shittiest image quality ever. it doesnt really matter.

I said professional because he had his big backdrop, lightstands with softboxes and stuff like that. And people were shaking hands and posing there while he shot. Don't know if it's his stuff or not.

I was just thinking it's odd working with a 2.74 MP camera.

Or he was just using it because he couldn't use his OTHER camera.

Doubtful, but don't forget the possibility.

Well, he didn't say anything when I inquired. If he had a D2 or D200 or something like that, I think he would've mentioned it.

Most pros don't care what you think. If his D2X was in the shop, he's not going to go out of his way to tell you.

Aside from that, the D1's low resolution is fine for newspaper work, where the shitty stock rapes image quality anyway and very few things are printed large.
