just about what he said...depends on how wide you wanna go

so 85 is alot wider?

it just looks like a really nice lense over all.

snapping one up for $400 isnt too bad either!

Well, the 85mm f/1.4 is a huge chunk of glass and much better optically. It's one of Nikon's finest lenses, and costs as much as you'd expect. I'd get the 50, I like the length better on dSLRs... 85 is weird. It's like... too long for normal stuff, but not long enough for telephoto applications.

The 85 is really nice for tight headshots at concerts when you can get pretty close though. f/1.4 really helps, but you have to nail the focus. Learn to love the green dot.

Picture dump from the 85 f/1.4! (Bear in mind, this is the Ai-S version I'm shooting with, but I think the optics are the same in the AF version)

I don't really like the working distance with an 85 on a crop sensor, but that's just me. I'm sure if I actually had the lens all the time, I'd learn to love it for certain situations, but it just didn't instantly gel with my shooting style.

Hah, would that I could. I can't afford film or a D3 or a 5D. :(
