I would say go back there and retake a different shot. I would focus more on the image section in my post. It seems like a really interesting subject whereas your image has a lot of mundane surrounding it and a lack of real topic.

Personally, I would try to get a shot of the fleur de lise and statue in one. If you could, try to do it near sunset and get some clouds with a nice tint behind it all. I think that could be win. Also, where is this?

University of San Diego. I've done some of what you suggest on other shoots. This time I was going for an overall scene, I like placing the dorm next to the church. And even if you aren't religious, student life sort of revolves around that church, it's very... present.
