5000 pics taken with my current cam Anonymous
I saw the picture number in my point-and-shoot powershot is now over 5000. And that's over less than 2 years.

I'm suprised it lasted that long. How many pics do you usually take with your POS cams before getting a new one or them falling apart?

How many pics do you take with more expensive gear?

I'm over 7 000 on my ?one year old Nikon DSLR (I don't think that's much). Shouldn't have problems up to 50 000 - 75 000.

by the time you get to those numbers camera phones will be better than your Nikon

Unless you drop the camera, dust/moisture gets in or the battery dies, digicams usually last long enough for you to buy a new one with more megapixels.

The weakest point of a SLR camera is the shutter, but even amateur SLRs usually survive tens of thousands of shutter actuations (pro models are rated for more than a hundred thousand). Point-and-shoots have smaller, slower shutters that rarely fail; I have yet to see a P&S camera die of natural causes.

I'm at 7500 with my 10 month old Canon 30D. Not even 1/10 through the rated shutter life.

The service counter in my Olympus reads 6250 frames. That's over around 1.5 years.

Had my D50 for just over a year, the counter just ran past 24,000 actuations.

After about a year, I'm at ~17,800 on my Rebel XTi. No idea how much my little PowerShot has on it (I don't think it has a way to number sequentially), but it's still going strong.

i've had my canon S3 IS since april and i've taken over 4000 pics with it.

that's probably because i like my 3fps shooting mode though. i take a lot of action shots and i can't time it.

When they start to whine, take more shots. Right when they are whining. Be warned tho, you will lose friends.

Heh, I just shoot every day, and I often have bursts where I'll go out and shoot a few hundred. When I do assignments, then there's thousands, especially for things like the fashion show, sports, etc. I honestly hope I wear out my camera so I can get another with a higher rated shutter. >.>
