So I'm trying to find out what aperture my lens is sharpest at. I'd say 2.8 from the bunch of test photos I took. Am I doing it right?

I'm guessing that the variance there has more to do with motion of your camera, hand, and tree than it does to softness in the lens.

Why not just google for a site that's already figured out the optimum aperture for your lens?

I'd say 5.6 but it's hard to tell. 8, 9 and 10 should be a lot sharper. Sure you don't have some camera shake going on?

dude, you're looking at 300% crops of whatever frame you've taken

take shots of your bookcase, a map or anything with fonts

then look at the center and borders

don't just crop a small ass part of one thing
