Hahaha oh wow, 4/3 bashing on the internet is awesome because it sometimes makes people sell their quality gear for cheap. Looks like I just scored an 11-22mm lens for less than half its price on B&H.

I can honestly say that I've had zero luck with used gear. People here seem to think that because they paid $1000 for a camera 20 years ago, it's worth that much now.

then... don't buy it?
Where's the bad luck?

Used gear doesnt really drop much because glass doesnt degrade much.

Sure I got my 50/1.8 cheap but then the whole brand has dissapeared.

- Lurk in more obscure places. You won't get cheap Leicas on a Leicaphile forum or in an used gear shop, but you may get them through classified ads, for example.
- Sometimes, a guy will offer his entire system for a bargain price, but refuse to split it. Buy it all, sell parts you don't need, and you'll end up with a fantastic deal.
- People who sell their old camera for $1000 are sometimes right. Carefully chosen lenses can be a good investment in case of a bank run, lol.

Glass usually keeps its value, or rises, like in case of Nikkor 28mm 1.4.

Never invest too much in bodies.

I think that should be corrected to GOOD glass and GREAT glass in short demand will rise... like the 28mm 1.4

Shitty lenses will drop in price pretty hard too, like the 18-200 VR doesn't really keep it's value these days. Neither do the 18-55mm kit lens.

I still wonder why Nikon stop producing that lens, it's like they wanted an inflated price... or maybe it was clever marketing... having all the fnaboys going ZOMG Nikkor.

I think another reason why i bought a Nikkor 17-55mm even though it's expensive as fuck is that looking at used prices, chances are i'll be able to sell it at around the same price or take a little hit.

The 17-55 Nikkor is risky as an investment IMO, as Nikon will most likely make an IS version of it. And if they don't screw it up, prices on the original 17-55 will drop.

I dunno. I think it has to do more with mythology or current trend than quality.
The super-takumar and super-multi-coated takumar M42 lenses are almost wholly great, most amaze me, personally; they're cheap as hell.
Many (ok, some) of the old vivitar and tamron lenses are amazing and usually overlooked (BBAR 135; S1 28-105; S1 200 f/3, etc).

The M42 stuff, I guess I can understand because its usability factor, but there's a bunch of things out there that aren't particularly common but are crazy cheap.

tl;dr: Same as everything else, there's a lot of cheap gems and a lot of expensive turds.

Congrats on the 11-22, personally, I want that lens, too! :D

OP here, just got home with the lens. HOLY SHIT YOU ARE THE SHARPEST WIDE ANGLE EVER

The guy also gave me a 80-200/4.5 Ukrainian zoom that some wacko refitted with a Four Thirds mount, lol.
