Some of the photos are underposed. The subjects arent really interestin. Out of them all I like the flower.

Oh and sorry, but what do you mean "getting Eagle"? Sorry for my incompetence.

Probably means eagle scout. LOL.

grats on the eagle, got mine 2 years ago, I know what a pain in the assholes it is to get. any way... nice camera I wish I got something that nice for my eagle

It's very nice, but I already got one you see!

About the only thing I don't enjoy with this camera is the pictures are a bit dim when you manually shoot with it. I shot a sunny f/16 (asa 100) picture with it and it's dim. My film camera (also a Canon) took the same picture with the same lens at sunny f/16 (asa 100) and it wasn't as dim.

So aside from the white balance having to be tweaked, I like it as well.

gtfo xti fag
feels like a cheap toy.

should have got a nikon.

in b4 massive flame war

the xti / 400d has a underexposing problem...some people have said the new firmware fixes it...
>> Anonymous
The XTi underexposes by 2/3 stops. I fixed mine by selling it and getting a 20D instead.

I like canon and I think they make nice cameras. I shoot with a Nikon because the grip feels awkward on canon cameras and their shutter release button feels pushed too far forward.

"should have got a nikon."

Till now I couldn't fault that logic. Over 25 years my two Nikon SLR's never needed a fix.

A few years back I bought a Coolpix 5700 expecting similar results. It was fine for a year but then failed for no apparent reason.
My cameras are treated gently and stored away from damp or temp extremes.
The Coolpix was sent to Nikon which insisted on $164.00 to open the box. It was returned working but with no information on why it failed.
50 to 100 pix later it failed a 2nd time. WTF?

Now I don't know if I should repair it? Are there other Nikon repair options other than Nikon INC.?
Money is tight but what should I look at in a decent digital under a thousand that has proven it's reliability?
Suggestions greatly appreciated.

You bastard. You also own a Canon S2 IS!! I'll take that off your hands since you already have a Rebel XTi, by the way. =)

>>44998
People shoot with both Nikon and Canon here. I think we get along pretty well compared to some other online forums.

Nikon's SLRs are much better than their P&S cameras. This also goes for Canon as well. Repairing your SLR camera is more worth it than any P&S. I wouldn't know any other place to repair your Nikon except Nikon Inc. But at such a ridiculous price, you might as well just save the money for a new camera.

Agreed. I assume that Nikon and Canon both cut every corner they can find on their low end models. But they know that if they did that on their high end models, they would not have the income to keep on making high end models. So their SLRs tend to be reliable as hell, but their P&S cameras only reliable as heck or possibly even just reliable as h-word, depending on the camera.

If you've got a Nikon SLR, you've probably got some Nikon SLR gear, so I'd say go get yourself a Nikon DSLR. And I say this as a Canon user.

Assuming, of course, that the Nikon lenses in question actually meter light on a Nikon body in the poster's budget. I love Nikon lenses and film SLRs (when I need to shoot film, an FM and 50/1.8 Nikkor is my go-to kit), but they make the weirdest marketing decisions in their amateur DSLRs.

Good point.

Man, Nikon is teh suxx0rz. Get a Canon!

"If you've got a Nikon SLR, you've probably got some Nikon SLR gear, so I'd say go get yourself a Nikon DSLR. And I say this as a Canon user."

Your advice is appreciated and may be a great solution. If you folks will indulge my learning curve a bit I need to know two things.
I have Nikon normal, wide angle, 80-200 and Cat500 lenses. These will fit some Nikon DSLR's?
If so which is the least expensive you would consider quality?
In the past I usually bought from several NYC camera stores. A quick glance at ebay and Amazon showed little for sale from private sellers. Is there an internet market for photography I'm unaware of I might profit from checking out?

Thanks again.

20D here.
Wish I had money to buy a battery grip, a flash and something around 80-400mm

My lenses all an FE and my Nikon SB. Mixing older lenses with digital seems like a fine idea but I'm aware I haven't kept up with the technology or reading.
I spent several months of research before initially buying Nikons. When I bought the Coolpix I bought what I could afford at that time trusting Nikon quality. I see that was a mistake since Nikon has seriously entered the casual user market.
My fault, I should have recalled the Nikon FG which had a shutter trip that felt like it was made in a retooled Russian tank factory.

Chances are the lenses are AI, and won't meter light on anything less than a D200. Check http://www.nikonians.org/nikon/slr-lens.html for details.

They'll still physically mount on amateur bodies, but you'll be either guessing the exposure (sunny-16 and the like), using a separate light meter, or taking repeat shots and checking the histogram until it's right. It's do-able, but you'll need patience.

Also, the SB flash is probably going to be an all-manual affair as well, unless it has an auto-thyristor mode. Frankly, I always liked auto-thyristor flashes better than TTL flashes. My Canon Rebel XT is usually paired with a Vivitar 283 that's older than I am.

Yup, A1's so I'm guessing D200 pricing will kill me there.

I have a good light meter so that intrigues me. I don't like pop-up flashes at all.
For the last three years I've been religiously keeping the battery recharged on an old Metz boomer. If I could rig it to work with say a D80 this might be a fun if not light solution.

I used to backpack 30 lbs. of camera gear up Adirondak mountains but my muscles won't store glycogen these days. The plus side of this is I'll be shooting fairly close to my van so I can carry more with me.

Are you sure they won't meter at all? My understand was just that they won't use the better matrix-metering mode. I.e., your metering will be slightly less advanced than the metering in my old Minolta SR-T-SC II manual-everything film SLR. Seems odd that it would just completely turn off the meter with the old lenses...

In any case, it's 6 of one, half a doze of the other. Getting a Canon will let you do everything on all of your Canon lenses, but I'm guessing a Nikon user isn't gonna have that many old Canon EOS lenses laying around. So usable-but-annoying has got to beat I-don't-have-anything-but-the-kit-lens.

Old School was "what?, you don't shoot Nikon?" delivered with an upturned nose.

New School is "tell me about these Rebel fellers that seem well praised. My 2 Nikon SLR's are gathering dust. Since I've gone digital I just want to get back to a reliable digital camera and if I can't afford that in Nikon perhaps Canon is a good place to investigate?

>>45167
Actually from my experience it isn't the Rebels that get praised its the 20D, 30D (somewhat), 5D and the Mark II's. I hear more complaints than anything about the "plasticky" rebels, I don't complain, but I did upgrade from an Xti to a 20D because the Xti was a pain to hold for long periods of time.

In fact if lenses were mountable on any body I would pick up a D50 as a backup, Thats a suprisingly comfortable camera with great high ISO's.
>> ac
>>45180
See, I'm quite comfortable holding my XTi for long stretches. I can definitely feel the size difference between it and my Rebel II S, but it's not uncomfortable. Hell, I'd classify "smaller and lighter" as a pro rather than a con.

Was that you that solved his exposures issues with a Rebel by getting a 20D? It sent me looking for prices.
They're very affordable so I'll be investigating lenses next.
