How much shit am i going to get for getting a Canon XS? I played with the D40 and the XS and the XS just seemed a lot more natural to adjust settings and tweak stuff on while shooting...
Is this stupid?

(Pic somewhat related, shot on a Canon SD1000 before I acquired a DSLR)

go away and don't come back until you've taken at least 1000 pictures

i was actually hoping AC would come rip me a new one... He was the one that always tore me to shreds any time I even tried with a point and shoot (even in manual mode)

I've taken somewhere around 80,000 pictures, but I don't have any of them in any digital form aside from the crap that I had from my SD1000. Sometimes it's a curse to own your own darkroom for 10 years but not own a quality scanner/digitizer.

If I ripped you apart, it was for the quality of your photography, not the quality of the camera used to take the picture. The Canon XS is a perfectly good camera. And also probably for not resizing.

Actually... it was more because i was playing with my camera's features because I was more interested in the potentialities from Digital since I was fresh out of a dark room.
700k still too big?

Ah, well if you're playing with lame features like the desature-all-but-one-color mode, I can see how I'd have ripped into you for that, yeah. But even beyond that...what's the point of that photo? Random snapshot with no real hint of composition. Did you take pictures like this when it cost you money for each frame?

>700k still too big?
The problem is more the resolution than the file size. You have the choice of looking at that shot at 100% (which looks like ass because photos--especially ones from digital point&shoots--really aren't meant to be looked at that closely) or looking at a shitty browser-resized version that (at least in Firefox for Linux) looks all jagged and crappy because it goes with a fast resizing algorithm rather than a good one.
