Sony sux.
>> Zyjek
Canon always wins.

Unless it's a fight with Leica. Then it crumbles into a fine dust.

ahhh, they both lose to the D80.

I think the D80 and the Canon 400D are about the same, except that the D80 is more comfortable to hold and $200 more expensive ($400 if with kit lens)

and here in england the lenses seem to be twice the price for the a100

Alpha loses to everything at ISO 800+
I like the D80 better than both, but if I had 3000$ I would get a Canon 5D hands down

Well, my dad bought the family the Alpha 100. The big selling point was it was using Minolta tech. My dad always liked Minolta. Well, more precisely it used Minolta lenses. We have a couple of nice lenses, so why buy new ones?

Actually, in front of me right now, I got the issue of Popular Photography that names it camera of the year.

I must admit I dislike and distrust Sony overall as a comany, but I enjoyed Minolta and backward compatable lenses is a huge plus. Also, I hear the imagestabilization is amazing.

Though I must say if I had a second choice, it'd be the Nikon D70 or D80. A friend has a D70 and it seemed quite good.

Did they ever fix the problems with autofocus servo noise in the 5D? Because if they didn't, and you intend to shoot in any mode except single-shot AF...

...PASS.

IIRC the Canon 5D doesn't have an autofocus servo, like the Nikon bodies do.

Altough, if I'd have the $3000, I'd try to get a second-hand Canon 1Ds, I can live with the older sensor and older image processor, but full-frame with 45-point area-AF <3. And a great body.

As much as i love Sony... im not a fan of the A100, not to say i wont appreciate newer and improved DSLRS from sony down the track... i mean they make all the colour sensors for Nikons. That's gotta count for something.
