I really want to get into the whole strobist stuff. Off camera lighting, multiple flashes and all that jazz.

What would you guys recommend to start? Flash recommendations, how to trigger etc...

I've been looking into this also. Alot of people reccomend Vivitar 285HV flashes and radio triggers off e-bay, but by the time you get a triggerable flash, you could just about afford an SB-600 or the Canon equivilant.
I also played with an optical slave sunpak that seemed like it might do the trick for about 100$. I was thinking of just setting the onboard to 1/16 power to trigger it. But also again, an SB-600 or 800 is a lot more flash for your money. Especially with full dedication if you want to use it on-camera.
