I will spend my monehs on a Canon 400D.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
Decent mid range camera, has most of the lenses you need and all the accessories. Unless you have aspirations to be a sports photographer or print photographer any time soon dont get it otherwise its just as good/bad as the others.

Regardless of my normal mocking of Sony's Alpha, QFT.

uh

except it's not as good as the canon and nikon equivalents

Isn't this the failure that puts noise reduction on its raw files?

Yeah, it is.

Also, people who shot with the A700 at the local photo fair returned with this. ISO 800, 1:1 cropped pixels. Kill me now...

ISO 800 on the Sony A350 (this one is camera JPEG rather than converted from RAW). 1:1 crop.

How do I made an APS-C camera with all the drawbacks of a Four Thirds one?

assuming that picture is not fake

it's pretty fucking bad
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
It is just slightly below the D300 in terms of specs and almost identical sensor performance.

We could have another massive rant but it performs as well as the D300 for $400 less.

High ISO is probably its worst area (then fps?) but as an overal system the lack of tele lenses are letting it down compared to the D300/40D

Look at the pictures, they're fucking atrocious if they're not fake. That's not "almost identical"

Um, no we won't.

It may have a good sensor somewhere inside, but Sony shot itself in the foot with badly implemented noise reduction that cannot be disabled.

<-- A700, ISO 3200, RAW converted with software NR in ACR turned to zero, 1:1 crop.

"At ISO 800 the DSLR-A700 begins to exhibit some chroma (blotchy color) noise, the cleanest of the remaining three appears to be the D300 followed by the EOS 40D and then E-3"

"Again the cleanest image at this sensitivity comes from the D300 with the best detail coming from the EOS 40D"

"Surprisingly at ISO 6400 the D300's image could be considered 'usable' although very noisy, the same could not really be said for the DSLR-A700."

"verall the DSLR-A700's performance trails both the Nikon D300 and Canon EOS 40D although does seem better than the Olympus E-3."

I just pushed my E-500, which is noisy even by 4/3 standards, to ISO 3200 (other ACR settings left at defaults), and suddenly it doesn't seem that bad lol

The smearing is pretty noticeable even in the tiny crops on dpreview. And while you can process the images taken with D300/E-3/40D in any way you want (NeatImage anyone?), in A700's case you're stuck with the shitty BIONZ processing.

>>137738
That looks pretty good.

I think we should shut up about four-thirds cameras sucking at high ISOs. Cleaner than T-Max or Ilford 3200, which people got by with for years.

OTOH, the results out of the Sony look like absolute shit.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>137741
The best part is that they're marketing the BIONZ thing as an advantage. They're all "Lower noise because we do the processing earlier in the data path!".

not to keep beating a dead horse but

saving up for the d300

There is no point in buying a Sony when you could go with the other systems.

D300 ISO 3200, 100% crop. looks a little worse than the ISO 800 from the A700.
