I'm getting a Nikon d80, mainly because I already have Nikon-fitting objectives. Any tips?

Alright, thanks, I'll do that! SD cards seem reasonable, as does manual reading, BUT... what is the grip for?

Vertical Grip. So you can shoot in vertical without much problem. And it has the added advantage loading it with two batteries, for longer shoots. Oh, and before you take the lens of of the box, fit some filters on those things.

epenis get, duh

I'll look into it. And filters is a good idea, so I don't break the lenses if I drop them.

The problem with the grip might be that it adds a lot of weight to an already sizeable camera. is it worth it? I'm planning on bringing it just about everywhere, not just on shoot sessions, and the grip + lenses makes it huge.

Also make sure that the SD cards you get are super fast. Don't get shit slow ones that take ages to write the images onto the micro databanks. You need super freaky fast ones, but you don't have to get the grip.. as it is a penis enhancer, but you may find its worth having. Just a quick note, if you drop the lenses, filters wont save them. Quick Camera tip: Never drop your lens.

Thanks for the advice. I'll think about the grip, perhaps try it out in a store or something before deciding if I need it or not. My epenis is already big enough. As for the SD cards and extra batteries, I'll definitely get those.

I was just thinking about something that my photography teacher once said. He told a story about how he bent over his bike to unlock it and his camera slammed into the metal. Because he had a filter nothing happened to the lens.

No dropping of my camera. No, sir.

You don't really need super fast ones to write on the card. It's the same if using plain vanilla or SDHC. Trust me, go read it up. It doesn't matter which type you choose really.

The reason to get it is to read of the cards as fast as possible, but not really necessary. Another reason might be the amount of trust you can put onto a, say, Made in Japan Kingston SD card as opposed to a Made in Taiwan SD card.

The weight from the vertical grip is good if you have a heavier lens because it helps to balance the weight out which makes it easier to hold and shoot.

The grip makes the camera look more professional, or that's what some people say. I like the grip for the added weight and extra battery. The first time I held my D80, the camera felt small, and I have small hands. My previous camera body was hardly bigger, a D70. Now when I use my D70, the D70 feels small.

Where are you getting the D80 from? And is there a package deal including lenses? I remember Ritz was running a KILLER deal on the D80 back at Christmas time..Just curious to see if you know anyone was running similar deals now...

i am also looking to buy a D80 soon. The best price i could find from a store that has had good reviews is from H1Photo for $900. if anyone else has seen any good deals from somewhere not shady, do tell.

OP here. I'm thinking of getting mine from Ebay. They sometimes have pretty good deals, usually closing at about 800 dollars and 1 year warranty.

This is, of course, for the body only, which I plan to buy. I don't want any lense coming with it, since I plan on using the one I had for my old analog camera.

If you're doing that, prepare to have little to no functionality from the camera.

That's what the warranty is for, right?

lol
unless you don't know what you're doing, a 50mm macro lens can keep most hobbyists happy. I'm a professional, and I barely ever use any lens but a 90mm (equivalent to about a 50 for small format, I shoot medium format- 67) Telephoto just runs down your f-stop generally, unless youre paying thousands, dont bother with lenses too much. all you need is a uv haze filter to keep your lens safe, dont go out and buy like a polarizer.

OP here. I'm thinking of getting a decent tele lens, because that is what I always lack when out and taking photos. I never get close enough to people or birds before they run away. :(
