Hey /p/,
I was just wondering, if I wanted to have an intelligent discussion on 4chan (i.e. not on /b/) about telescopes, binoculars, and eyepieces, y'know, astronomical optics, would this be the place?

Why not? Someone needs to come show me how to fucking use my orion.

sure. we're all optics nerds here. what do you want to know?

Not ideally, but you're more likely to find people who know about here than anywhere else. So ask away.

Ideally, /r9k/ or some weird, alternate-universe version of /b/ that didn't suck.

Well it's not that I have any specific questions so much (other than a nagging hitch with focal ratio's) I just surmised that the most likely place to find anyone discussing telescope optics on 4chan would be here.

What kind of scope is it, exactly? I might be able to offer some assistance.

well, i guess we'll be ready when you actually want to talk about telescopes.

Well wtf man, here I was all primed and prepped to talk about such things... I haz little in the way of such optics right now, but have been considering the purchase of some to try my hand at astrophotography.

In a totally (un)related vein, I have a 100-400mm to go with an XTi and I am curious about shooting the moon using the image stack/mosaic method(s)... I'm also curious about solar filters and shooting the sun.

<3 guys, sorry. :(

You really need to be careful even with solar filters. I would suggest shooting a projection of the sun.

What? What's the worst that could happen?

OH GOD MY EYES THE FILTERS THEY DO NOTHING

The problem with shooting a projection is that you can't see the cool stuff (to my knowledge). I've heard some positive things about the metal foil based ones, and recently ordered a Badder one. We'll see how it goes.
