Yes, I was talking about the D40.
Any "real" camera you can get spare parts for. That includes things like the knobs, switches, buttons, and all that stuff. The clear plastic panel on the back of the housing is just another spare part. You can get them from Canon directly or from a service center that repairs Canon cameras. You can buy every part of the camera individually, including that back panel. They aren't marketed to the average Joe becasue this is a part that almost nobody needs. But, they are available and they're not expensive.
Think of it like the auto dealership. You can go to the parts counter and buy a new alternator, or a new bumper, or a leaf spring. this is the same way. Any part on that camera you can buy new through Canon or through a Canon service center.
