So, how many /p/tards use Leica cameras?
j/k about /p/tards

I personally own a few Nikon cameras, but I've stopped using them and am using an old Leica CL w/ the 40mm lense and the 90mm lense. (I don't have a digital camera, only 35mm.)

I'm looking at getting a M6, but I need some other stuff first.

So, Leica FTW
>> Anonymous
leica is all about the leica prestige, and that's about it. 35mm is 35mm is 35mm.

oh, and they make incredibly robust bodies. once you've seen a 60 year old german leica rep using an M6 as a step stool, you'll never call your nikon a brick again.

good lenses, too, of course, but nikon and canon make some of similar optical quality for 1/4-1/2 the price.

Nikon hasn't made a body that you could drive nails with since the F2 :/
>> Anonymous
>>75536
wrong, nikon and canon make them of lesser optical quality.
particularly the iris, which makes a big difference, but also the lenses thenselves

Leica CL's not a proper Leica, dude. It's only so-so quality, too.

I used to think that too... until I got a Leica.

I used to shoot mostly with Nikon cameras (and have owned a variety of Canon, Yashica, Contax, Hasselblad, Mamiya, and Rollei cameras), but a few years ago I came across a Leica M3 with a 50mm f/2 summicron for a great price. I originally bought it to resell for a profit, but made the mistake of running a roll of film through it to see. It is by far the most pleasant camera I have ever used. While I do think Leica equipment is overpriced, it is still leaps and bounds better than anything else I have ever used.

If I could afford an M8, I'd throw my D200 away in an instant.

Leica M2 is the way to go man.
They go for a good price, and the uncluttered 35, 50, 90 VF is super nice.

My dad has a couple of old Leicas from the 19060s. He thinks it's got a little better quality than the later automatic Minolta he got later, like in the 80s. Meanwhile we just bought the Sony Alpha 100. He doesn't know how to use it yet, so for some family gather he took out the Leica and I had the new digital.

Leica seems to have a following of the worst camera snobs I have ever seen. Even Hassleblad shooters can't live up to the level of elitism that True Leica snobs have.

That said I would love a Noctilux :)

o noes, your camera doesn't have the red dot? then that means all your pictars are automatically shit.

Ugh. I have nothing against pretty flowers with shallow DOF and oversaturated colors, but that's too much.

By the way, if someone wants images like these without spending thousands on Leica gear, Noctilux's swirling bokeh looks extremely similar to that of a Helios-40 (yeah, it's rather rare, and it's a Soviet lens with all the usual pitfalls, but hey, $200 vs. $2000)

Oops, my bad. $200 vs. $5000, lol.

I was planning to make a Leica roll call thread, but looks like I got beaten to it by trolls.

Using a Canon 7 here, but with a Summaron 35/3.5 and an Elmar 90/4 on it. I doubt there are many more of us /p/tards that have touched Leicas though.

Well, Leica is the Rolls-Royce of cameras, what do you expect? I have touched several old and new Leicas belonging to people from a local Leica fan club, but didn't take a single shot with them.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
Talking about Leica, has anyone seen / used the Leica point and shoot? it costs about 300gbp (400 usd i guess).

It's a rebranded Panasonic P&S with different firmware. Piece of shit. Just a grab for money.

That said, I want a Leica so very, very badly... *whimper*

Look up some used prices (nobody human buys new Leicas anyways). They're not as inaccessible as they seem. OP with his CL has the right idea.

might also want to check out the voigtlander leica mount bodies. I've seen them described many times as excellent "for the money."

I see your noctilux and raise you a Canon 50mm F/0.95, the fastest lens ever commercially produced.

Speed isn't everything. The Noctilux is a much better lens than Canon's two fast offerings.

The CL I shoot with was my fathers, he shot with it in college, which is now a long time ago.
He now shoots with a D1H, which is his works and a MP4.

I have a few other cameras; Nikon N8008s and F5, and I prefer shooting with the CL, mainly because its a lot easier lugging it around, and the lense is amazingly sharp.

I have a couple voigtlander lenses that I use on my M3, and have had the opportunity to play with the voigtlander bodies. The lenses are surperb. They're not quite up to leica, but beat the hell out of anybody else in the market.

The voigtlander bodies are really nice, particularly the newer ones. I really want a Bessa R4M with ultra-wide framelines.

I've been very tempted to pull the trigger on a NOS bessa r1+35mm f/2 but can't bring myself to do it just yet.

The Voigtlander Bessa series is excellent, I have a Bessa L with the 15mm CV and it's great. I'd like an R4M, though.

I've held a Leica M6. If you're gonna look at it from the outside, there's nothing special about it. Just as big and heavy as most cameras, but when you peer through the viewfinder and take a shot, that's when you'll see the difference.

I want one, but it would mean living on bread and water for months.

I own a Lecia m3 and an m4. Those old carl zeiss are nice. They were actually my grandfathers before he passed away, too bad I don't use them. And no, you can't have them.

I own an M6 with a 40mm cron. They are overrated and utter shit and I wish I never bought one. Having said that, I have one and you don't.

Carl Zeiss didn't make lenses for Leica until a couple years ago when they introduced the new Ikon.

Leica's are for people who want a camera that can only do half of what an SLR can.
Thats why I spend my money on them.

False. Do your research - while rare, Sonnars like the 50/2 do exist in factory-original Leica screw mount. Back in the day, everyone and their mom made Leica screw lenses. It's how Canon and Nikon stayed afloat, and Konica, Minolta, and a bunch of other now dead companies (I guess KM are too) did as well.

You probably use those Kodak film point and shoot things.
