What I dont like:
1) shadow on wall..
2) I have no idea whats going on except you are looking back.
3) No context.
4) photo too small to make out any other stuff.

Good part:
1) At least you do try. I dont even bother trying. You win more.

Looking at you is like being raped in the eyes.

Kill yourself.

lol no context? please explain. i would love to hear your thinking behind this comment.

I've got to agree, the shadow on the wall is a bit distracting. I'd have liked to have seen the top of your head too as it is just cropped out but that is my personal preference and might ruin the composition. About the only thing I can see an airbrush fixing are some stray threads from the lace.

As it stands though, apart from the background I like it and like 33714 you try so you win more :)

Yeap, no context as in we have no idea where she is from, what she was doing, why the photo.
What i've read about portraits is that you take a photo of a person's life/habits.
Unless you are doing modelling, which goes for figure/face, you should include a "reason" why she turned her head for the photo.
Just my opinion.

I am not saying the photo was bad, its just " ".

mmmm yeah, thats quite a misguided set of rules you have there.

do you honestly expect there to be a justified reason to why she is looking over her shoulder? not only that, how is the view meant to understand this "context" through the picture alone? what if there was a reason for the look over the shoulder and you simply didnt get it?

how would you visually include all of these elements about a persons "life/habits"? would you simply have the tings related to them in the picture as well?

im not bashing. im just interested as you brought it up.

Well, if that doesnt explain it, what is a portrait photo then?

If you only take into account the face/figure, then it's just a model shoot.
There probably is a reason why she is looking over, but we dont know what. What makes the model to have the face on the photo? What is she thinking and stuff like that.

IMO, portraits and food photography is the hardest.

I dont know how to justify the portrait, but everyone to their taste.

I don't like the shadow on the wall, and the edges on the dress could be a bit cleaner.. the lipstick on the lower lip looks kinda strange with the shadow below it. Hand drawn borders aren't so good either.. but if you insist, keep holding shift next time to draw them straight X).

Otherwise it's pretty nifty imo. Sorry for the half assed photochopping.

food must be hard to control when taking photos of it. i suppose its just a technical exercise. i know a lot of the food they use is fake. meh, it must be boring as fuck to shoot.

a portrait should be a snapshot in time, one image of that moment. the context isnt important. it is the moment that is important, if context was important why would i sit there for 30 mins waiting for the perfect milisecond for a shot? its the capture of the moment that is important, we can speculate as to what the context, it can produce some interesting interpretations of the moment.
