I felt that my option to stop action was to shoot at 1/500 shutter. But also wanted to use f22, for what I thought would be sharper image; but to do this I needed to set ISo to 1600.

Right now I only have one lense; the 17-55 2.8 IS USM. I'm not sure if i was limeted as to what all I could get out of this type of picture due to the fact of not having a longer zoom.

I put the 2 images up the first is the full raw resized and the second is the raw at 100%, just cropped for easier viewing here.
C&C plz.

f/8 would've been fine, probably, especially with the wide/normal lens you used. The grain isn't terrible, but don't plan on doing much cropping.

On a side note, where in MI are you from? I'm an Ann Arborite and have been to many a Tiger game in my time.

You are probably gonna get attacked... F22? That seems incredibly unneccessary. 1/500 of a second to capture a human standing? You probably could have taken this at a much longer shutter. Both of those changes would have prevented you from bumping up to 1600ISO which turned your picture into a noise fest.

why the F were you shooting at f/22!!!!

anything below 11 or even 16 is where diffraction sets in and you end up with a softer image.
also no reason to go that small for DOF either, again, anything around 8-11 would get everything in focus...

this way you can bring that ISO back down to something far more reasonable...

Westland area, I was kind of limited to what shots of the players I could get because of my limited zoom. I want to get a nice L zoom after x-mas. This was my first Tiger game in about 4 years. i got one kind of more out of focus of a catch.

I got this shot which I kinda like, except the hat and hand in the pic, i was in 3rd row; also , i think i was a little out of focus on the players.. kinda upset too because as soon as i Lowered the camera Rodney waved then gave a thumbs up right at me..

yea when i got home and looked at the shots on the computer I was thinking f22 was a little over kill, i just wanted sharp and faster shutter(so i thought). This is my first time shooting action like this.

Oh yea definitely, I just wanted to put the whole raw up. just incase anyone can pick up sign from anything else in the pic that they could use in their C&C,

I was even thinking of shopping out that hat. its just grass and 1 shoe that its covering.

The hat would be rather difficult to shoop out, cloned grass is pretty fake-looking...
It could probably stay, as it adds to the perspective of the shot.
