wide-angle lens Anonymous
hi guys
i recently got a canon 400d (digital rebel xti?). currently i have only my EF 28-135 IS USM, but i think i'll need a nice wide-angle lens, too.

some recommendations?
the 10-22 usm is a bit too expensive, and it's ef-s... :(

i think i can spend 300-400 euros...

I want to get the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8, which is around $400 (making that something like €300 i think) for my 350D, though it's a Di-II lens and wont work on full frame cameras, if that's a concern for you (which it sounds like it might be).

EF-S lenses can be used on eos400.

Tamron 17-50 is a nice walk around lens with good wide angle (not as wide as 10 though...), mild barrel distortion, but for the price I'd say it's okay.

check out the reviews at fred miranda's site (google it)

costs about 350~400eur in yoorop

i know that i can use ef-s with my eos400d, but i cannot use it with a 5d (not that i have enough money to afford one (o.o))

One option would be to pick up a used 18-55 kit lens. They're cheap as hell (under $100), especially for how wide they'll get you.

Don't worry about not being able to use a lens much later on when or if you get a 5D. Canon lenses hold their value very well and you can usually sell them for within 10-15% of their original price. I've even sold used lenses for more than they cost new on ebay.

That's pretty damned unethical.

How so? It's eBay. Nothing says the dumbass has to bid above the new price for a used lens. In fact, once he puts up the auction, it's really out of his hands.

It's overcharging. The person might be new to photography and not know any better.

If the person buying the lens is happy with his purchase, and the person selling isn't misrepresenting his merchandise, there's nothing wrong with making a profit. It's called capitalism, you moron.

It's frickin' eBay. If you say "Okay, I want a minimum of $100 for this lens that sells for $150 new" and people bid it up to $200, you're completely ethically in the clear. Hell, eBay's not even set up for someone to say "No, don't pay me that much, pay me this lesser amount."

It's not like he's claiming it's a new lens. Any fool who fails check the new price of something used they're attempting to buy on eBay deserves to be parted from their money.

Wait, I'm probably being trolled.

Forgive me for thinking capitalism should be carried out in a somewhat human manner.

In a transaction, one is dealing with another person, not just a bank account.

>you're completely ethically in the clear.

I disagree. You're taking advantage of a human being.

>Hell, eBay's not even set up for someone to say "No, don't pay me that much, pay me this lesser amount."

Offer to arrange it with the winning $200 bidder otherwise, as individuals seperate from e-bay, or throw in something extra in the box when you ship it. At least some cheap filter or something.

>Wait, I'm probably being trolled.
No, you're not.

Excuse me, have you ever used ebay? A bidder inputs the amount of money they are willing to pay for an item. If they are happy to pay more than retail so be it. They probably couldn't be fucked going to the shops or something. There is nothing unethical about it, they paid what it was worth to them. Cheers.

God you fail.

Use Craigslist.

53116 here,

I put the lens up for $1.00 starting bid and it gets bid up to more than I paid for it new. It's not my fault. If someone wants to pay that much for it then that's their prerogative. If it makes you feel better I take perfect care of my lenses and they arrive at the buyer boxed as they would from the manufacturer and in new condition.
