What do you guys think of this:
http://www.picturestock.com/phpcode/web/press_pass.php

Scam?
Waste of money?
Potentially useful for getting into events you might not otherwise get to photograph?

Worth 50 bucks? Something better as an option for a photo pass?

Lets hear it.

1. Go to the event and say, "Oh, I'm the photog here for [insert name of small local newspaper here]!"
2. Get into the event.

4. PROFIT!

You could probably print off your own "photo pass" for cheaper. Probably as useful as that one too.

There is no such thing as a universal "press pass" that will get you into whatever event you want. If you work for an agency, they will usually supply you with some form of credentials identifying you as a photographer for that agency, but that doesn't give you any special permission to go anywhere. It's just ID, not a "press pass." Sometimes people at the gate will let you in with that, sometimes not.

With bigger events, the agency has to call ahead and make arrangements for you to have access and shoot the event. The event organizers will then issue you their own press pass that gets you through the gate, but it's only good for that one event.

Anybody claiming to be selling press passes is a scam, no two ways about it. You might as well just print your own off at home, it'll have the same level of validity.

I'm going to print this out and add it to the credentials I keep clipped to my camera bag.

The only real universal press pass is to become an ordained ministier.

It's in Intro to Photography 101, what the fuck people.

Become an ordained minister and no one can prevent you from taking a picture of anything.

It should also have EXTREM SHUTTER SPEED certified. and more vignette.

it needs a picture of ac on the back, with the rest of the saved by the bell crew...YO

Back in my day, simply having an SLR meant "professional" and would act as a simple press pass or intimidate people. Nowadays, every scene chick, hipster and their mothers have dSLR's.

the next time you every have a chance to fuck a girl one of two things will happen. a) you will have taken up too much space in your wallet and wont have a condom so she wont fuck you or b) everyone will KNOW its a picture of your boyfriend.

my wallet has just enough space left in it for a condom, so yeah. if i try to stick a piece of paper in there instead, my condom will have to go :(

um have you not been outside in the last 30 years 25 years or so...STD's .....herpes....HIV/AIDS??????????

"SHIT AND HERES ME JUST THINKING CONDOMS ARE ONLY TO STOP ME KNOCKING DRUNK GIRLS UP."
>> Anonymous
>>176469
It's still not a good idea to have sex, condom or no, with someone with an STD. They don't provide enough protection for that, either.
>> Anonymous
>>176462

Condoms are more effective than that if you are not a complete fucktard or a nigger in some African hell hole who wears the condom like a magic charm around his neck.
>> Anonymous
>>176498

Yes they do. Only christian weenie fags in the US spout and swallow this propaganda to scare kids from having sex because they are pathetic retards that think sex is evil.
>> Anonymous
>>176465
The condom can go, you're on 4chan, you'll never get laid anyways.
>> Anonymous
>>176516
I'm all for sex, but having sex with someone who is HIV positive while wearing a condom isn't exactly preventative health.

Stick to a person/people who you know is/are clean and you don't have to worry about this.

>>176514

I've always heard 80-90% in typical usage. I know that if everything goes perfectly and it doesn't break, it's 2%, but still, an IUD or hormonal contraception is more effective. There's no reason to settle for a less effective method, especially when one has to be taken care of every time while the other works for a decade.
>> Anonymous
>>176419
wait what, really?
>> Anonymous
It won't get you in Madison Square Garden or anything but you'll have a free pass for everything else.
>> Anonymous
Depending on your religious beliefs, you may find this offensive. However, if you become an ordained minister through the ULC (free online ordination), you are eligible to get a press pass for $10. I am having two friends getting married next year on the cheap (her family has zero money) I am going to be their minister, photographer, and baker.

Your mileage may vary in who will let you in with it (it won't get you into the Super Bowl) but I wouldn't think anyone would have any problems with it at a gymnastics event.

I think there is some unwritten requirement that you post the stories, or photos, that you use the press pass for, online at the ULC website.

I've got one. I'm legally authorized to marry people and all that. Never used it. Got it for kicks.

The guy who started this believed in absolute religious freedom, and believed that people shouldn't have to be a member of any organization to be clergy, so he started in the 1950s free ordination through the mail to anyone who agreed to support religious freedom and always do what they personally believed was right.

Now, the organization's expanded to the Internet. They'll send you a little certificate and a catalog of other titles- everything from "Nun" (even if you're male) to "Flying Minister" ($10) to "Doctor of Immortality" ($29.99)- which also includes the thing to buy the press pass. I've been meaning to get it (the press pass, not any of the stupid titles), putting it off because I doubt it'll do any good. You don't have to post your stories, but they'll take them, and supposedly put out a newsletter when some of them in it from time to time.

marriage is a civil union. ministers and the like dont marry people legally. they are just part of a religious ceremony that is not necessary for a marriage. anyone can stand in for that part.
>> Anonymous
>>176702
No, even though it's a civil thing, I'm pretty sure that (at least in the United States) you need to either be a judge or something like that or an ordained clergyman of a body recognized to ordain clergy (anything from the Catholic Church to a yeshiva to these people) to legally sign as the officiant on a marriage license.
>> Anonymous
First thing that shows up on a Google search for (without the quotes) "clergy marriage license" is a list of rules for marriage licenses in New York State, USA. Taken from it:

"The parties must state in the presence of an authorized member of the clergy or public official and at least one other witness that they take each other as husband and wife... To be valid, a marriage ceremony must be performed by any of the individuals specified in Section 11 of the New York State Domestic Relations Law. These include:

*the mayor of a city or village;
* the former mayor, the city clerk or one of the deputy city clerks of a city of more than one million inhabitants;
* a marriage officer appointed by the town or village board or the city common council;
* a justice or judge of the following courts: [blabla field too long, etc.]
* a village, town or county justice;
* a member of the clergy or minister who has been officially ordained and granted authority to perform marriage ceremonies from a governing church body in accordance with the rules and regulations of the church body;
* a member of the clergy or minister who is not authorized by a governing church body but who has been chosen by a spiritual group to preside over their spiritual affairs;
* other officiants as specified by Section 11 of the Domestic Relations Law."
