discuss the canon 25mm f3.5

Why is it so fast for 25mm? Shouldn't it be easier to have a larger aperture at shorter focal lengths?

Say you're using this on an M mount camera. Your reasonable options are:

Canon 25/3.5
CV Snapshot-Skopar 25/4 (not RF coupled)
CV Skopar 25/4P
Zeiss Biogon 25/2.8
Leica Summilux 24/1.4 ASPH
Leica Elmarit 24/2.8 ASPH

Taking into account when each of these lenses were designed, I'd say the speed is pretty decent. Note how the Topogon mentioned in the blurb is f/6.3

As far as I know it's easy to design a fast wide but they end up abberated as fuck without stuff like aspherical elements, which is why they've only started appearing in the past couple decades.

the tradeoff in speed is that its a very very small and light pancake lens.
