>>94673 Look up Marine Corps Marksmanship information, and you will learn about such concepts as bone support and natural respiratory pause. I am an expert rifleman in the Corps, and that experience helped out a great deal when I started getting into photography.
Basically, you want your bones, not your muscles, to support the rifle/camera since tensing your muscles up makes them shake. For this, I rest my elbows against my rib cage. Also, there is a pause after you exhale but before you inhale. By elongating this pause, you can eliminate the shaking caused by your breathing, and your muscles will be at their most relaxed.
I've been able to use those two concepts along with an IS lens to create 1-2 second handheld exposures with minimal shaking.
