Standalone storage vs. Memory cards Anonymous
Hey /p/, I'm going on a trip soon and don't want to bring my notebook with me. I've got too much to carry as it is.

Now, should I get one of them standalone storage devices with a HDD or just a lot of CF cards?

I think the standalone ones are something like 250$ for 40 GB. The CF cards I usually buy are Sandisk Ultra II and are 20$ for 2 GB or 45$ for 4 GB.

What should I do?

I guess it could be useful for backup storage too. I burn my files to DVDs when I erase them from my CF cards but I could use the standalone one for backup.

And it's not like I want to have 20 CF cards. -_-

Also, should I get two 2 GB or one 4 GB?

How many shots will you get on a 2GB card? If it seems like a tiny number that would give you problems (I doubt it) then get the larger. Two 2GB would probably be better. I don't like keeping everything on one huge card. I've lost some that way when a card died suddenly.

10 MP RAW so about 9-10 MB.

On the 4 GB cards I have, I think it's just below 400 RAW shots.

About 200 shots for the 2GB cards then? That isn't too bad at all. A far cry from the days of 24 or 36 shots between changes. I doubt you'll feel put upon.
