ITT we have way more lenses than we really need.

<-- Of all this stuff, I only use three: 50/f1.8 Takumar for portraits, 500/f5.6 Rubinar for lulz, and 14-45/f3.5-5.6 Olympus for everything else. Others just lie around and make me wonder why the hell I paid money for some of them...

I actually use all of the lenses I've got for my Canons.
1. 18-55 kit lens whenever I need a wide angle, or an doing a lot of moving around fast-paced street shooting type stuff and the 18-55 versatility trumps the shitty f/3.5-5.6 aperture
2. 50mm f/1.8 when I need really fast apertures at moderate telephoto. E.g., taking pictures of nighttime volleyball games where I don't want to get hit with a ball
3. 35mm f/2.0 for when I need a fast aperture that doesn't require me to be four feet away from my subject
4. 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 for when I'm in the bushes outside of the home of some woman who doesn't have curtains.

Oh, and that's not all actually! I have a 58/f2 Helios somewhere (I put it away because it was inferior to the Takumar in every way), and grandfather's 300/f5.5 Tele-Xenon that I can't find an adapter ring for yet. Talk about too much useless manual primes...

18mm isn't a wide enough angle for me. I'm buying a 10.5mm

Eh. 18mm on a 1.6 crop is just about 28mm equivalent. That's wide enough for me. Certainly when I look at the prices of things like Canon's 10-22 superwide.

I could do with something about that for my Pentax, widest I have is 28mm, which isn't so wide on a 1.5x crop. :(

I have to make do with the kit lens at 18mm, but the lens just feels so plastic and flimsy.

Guess I'll jump on this bandwagon, I missed the gear thread (don't have much to show off though anyway).

Vivitar 50mm 1.8
Vivitar 28mm 2.8
Pentax 18-55 kit lens
Pentax 50mm 1.7
Vivitar 3x Tele Converter
Vivitar 135mm 3.5
Vivitar 80-200mm 4.5

All these lenses were given to me by my dad, so I've no idea why he had two 50mm, though the Pentax one is much better quality. Haven't really used the 3x Tele Converter at all, or the 80-200, and the 28 isn't really wide enough when I want wide shots.

The Pentax 50, the 135 and the 18-55 kit lens see the most action for me.

Trying to compare all this stuff got me some interesting results...
That poor man's Industar prime (which was bundled with old Zenit cameras more as a body cap than as a real lens) takes better pictures than both of the Olympus kit zoom lenses. What's even funnier, it outperforms the 35/3.5 macro lens in terms of distortions and vignetting (not visible here).

And the Olympus 14-45 and 40-150 are considered good among other kit lenses judging by review sites I know. That means the Canon 18-55, for example, is even worse!

Oh, as for technical details, the grid was printed on a sheet of thick paper, all the shots were taken with Olympus external flash, then exposure and WB were a bit corrected in Photoshop for more consistency. Fragments were taken from the upper left corner of the image, 1:1.

But are you actually going to use it more now? :-p

Here in Soviet Russia, Industar lens uses you!

No, I'm not going to use it more except when I'll want to freak out some other photography fans. It's still inferior to 50/1.8 Takumar in every way except weight.
