So /p/, took this the other night, what are your thoughts?

No EXIF (not at my flat so just pulled it off my flickr), but was taken with Pentax K10D, 18-55 lens (was at about 23-25 i think), on manual setting.

This would be better if the main subject weren't just some random guy sitting there with his SLR.

how'd you convert to B&W?
I don't like how the colours came out - not a lot of pop

green filter is best bland and white conversion

I liked what you did with the vignetting, so I just did it a little more, by popping the subject out a little brightness-wise, without doing too much to the sky area.

I really think a lot of you guys have your monitors turned up too fucking high though.

oh... I also added my patented (not really) film-looking effect which is basically just too much noise done on a 50%grey layer, set to hard light mode, then blurred twice and set to 30 or 40% opacity.

The hair just made me want to send it back in time a little.

Doesn't look like film at all. It looks shitty, actually.

unfortunately agreed
try the photoshop film grain filter next time

wow, its a good thing this shit's a matter of opinion, otherwise we'd all be producing the same sort of stuff people laugh at you guys for posting.

Photoshops grain filter blows

This is a fairly good method, and something I've always been happy with; http://www.prime-junta.net/pont/How_to/n_Digital_BW/a_Digital_Black_and_White.html?page=5

Huh.
Looks like it would work well.
Thanks, dogg.

that is a good method, but it's altogether too much resolution for me.

to be honest, in that second picture it doesn't look much different from gaussian noise.

anyway, that sort of grain you'd almost expect from a larger format camera or something... what I was going for in a pinch, was more of a 'wonder years' era instamatic with drugstore processing.

more of a blotchy aged film look - not film grain - notice I didn't say grain.
