What film? Anonymous
hey /p/
I've been getting into b/w film photography lately, I managed to find a Pentax P30 on Ebay.
What's the best film /p/ recommends?
>> Anonymous
Ilford HP5+ is an awesome film to start out with.

Oo I just realised I have an unopened one of those, awesome. I'll try that one next.

I'm a big fan of Delta 3200, but I like my grain like I like my women--huge and black.

I started with HP5+, its awesome film to shoot with.

I like my women the way i like my coffee. Ground up and in the freezer.

Now, see, you could have just as easily made that photography related. "I like my women like I like my film: In small canisters stored in my fridge". Going for the standard quote is just laziness.

I like my women the way I like my film: exposed on sheets, one at a time.

I like my woman the way I like my photography; digital and ends with .jpg.

my turn. i like my women like i like my D-76: agitated rhytmically and vigorously for 5 minutes, then dumped after i've used it for two or three months.

I lol'd. Which hurt like hell because I have a sore throat and a bad cough. Bastard.

you do know theres 10mm in a cm, right?
>> Anonymous
>>127722
300/10= 30 cm

30cm ~= 11 inches, closer to 12.

gb2 math class.

3cm is that puny?

I still like Tri-X. Yes, it's expensive now, but classic.

Kodak Tmax100

That's what us photo students use.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
you can't really buy a bad black and white film. even the c41 process films are great in their own way.
>> Anonymous
>>127794

This is true. As long as it isn't Kodak High-Speed Infra Red, there won't be too many surprises. Older and higher ISO films are grainier, but black and white grain often looks rather good (depends on your subject).

Low grain files like T-Max are also good, though supposedly a little harder to develop in your own dark room.
>> Anonymous
>>127199
It depends on what you want for your result. Some films are grainy, some are sharp, some are pan, others are ortho.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
>>127912

which are ortho? i don't think anyone actually makes orthochromatic films anymore.

Fuji Neopan is good.

As is Ilford HP5.

Yes, but I believe OP wants to be a little better then you lawl photo students.
>> Anonymous
>>127790
wut? I'm a photo student as well, but I never stick to one film for everything. Besides, 100 ASA is way too low for average available light use.

OP, try Fomapan for your black and white. A slightly different look, a bit more pop to my eyes than the usual T-Max/Ilford/etc.

Both of these need a more dynamic light source (Preferably multiple ones)
A good trick is that the closer the light is to something the more pronounced is the light "Falloff" from the light dispersion.
Also having a "soft" light, (aka umbrella or softbox) Is better for skin than Hard light (Single point flash's / lightbulbs)
And also they make for easier to control distances from the source light.

in short OP for people shots (especially of yourself), Invest in at least some white sheets to use as mock Softboxes, And get movable lights (Not necessarily strobes or anything expensive) Just something you can plug in and move around.

>>128204
I think the lighting is great on these. They're underexposed, but there's an intimate, sensual power to these shots and the lighting is a big part of that. Just maybe a touch more exposure and they'd be perfect.

I know there has to be some way to light it more and keep the feel, but I've got a feeling pskaught is the only one on here who might know how to do it.
