Diagnose this crazy Alpha problem Dude Who Sells Cameras All Day
So guys, here's a question for you.

At work we have the four Sony SLR's on display, and the 300 and 350 do this crazy thing that I can't figure out.

When you hit the shutter it will sometimes, but not always, make the shutter sound -and then- a horrible clacking noise. If you look through the OVF while it does this, it looks like the mirror is having a seizure. This also interrupts continuous shooting.

I'm thinking a customer gave them a hard whack (we seriously get one or two dipshits a day who will drop a camera against the camera display counter), but would that cause something like this or is this a known problem with Alphas?

Guide me, /p/!

This is actually a problem with the camera I think, not a customers fault. Not entirely sure though, just basing this off someone saying something similair about them.

mirror lockup malfunction?

I'm not sure about the 300 or 350, but the 100, 200, and 700 that I've used have never had a problem like that.

We also have a D40 with a busted flash, a D80 that won't take pictures, and a D60 that refuses to turn its LCD on.

Let's not even talk about the Canons! :3

Can you be more specific?

I would wager that this is something like it.

Sounds like the mirror is sticking. Send it back defective. Just in case, check that the memory card lock is off on the D80.

Stop greasing your cameras. =P

You must have fucking terrible customers or even worse luck. I sell cameras all day and have worked at several different stores and rarely see defectives on anything but cheap-o point and shits with lens errors.

Once they're sold, however, customers find unique and creative ways to lie about not having dropped their cameras and to find excuses to STILL not buy the goddamn service plan.

Sony makes crappy cameras. Buy Canon.

Would that cause it to flash every symbol on the OVF display red whenever you look through it? O.o

You got it!

Some people will just let go of a camera and let it swing from their hand back against the bottom of the counter...and walk away. As if, you know, it's okay to treat a $2500 piece of electronics like their dog.

Nah, but the memory card lock thing is something many customers manage to turn on that sales people don't realize. Just call Nikon and see, I dunno why the D90 needs to tell you about it's viewfinder.

I fucking hate tethered cameras. Bitches always be asking to have the cameras taken off because they want to see how heavy it is or twisting that shit around and setting off the alarms. All of my good shit is in glass cases so they don't dick it up.
