Hey /p/
do you guys like this lens?
http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-50mm-Nikkor-Digital-Cameras/dp/B00005LEN4/ref=cm_lmf_tit_4_rdssss0

I think it would be ideal for low light urban shots, and all around faster shitter at night...

I have one, probably the sharpest and lightest lens I own. Not the most pleasing OOF rendition, but oh well.

Pic related (to demonstrate it's bokeh).

I've used it before. Very nice. No complaints here.

i use to have this lens before i broke it.
Get it, its fantastic for the price.

Might as well use this thread rather than make another gear thread. I was originally planning to get this lens brand new but a friend of mine is selling his 50mm f/1.4 around twice the price of a 50mm f/1.8. Is the 1.4 worth it?

Yes.

>>188390
Hell yes, get it. As long as the lens isn't damaged.

Any other difference between the 1.8 and the 1.4 other than the wider aperture? Is it really sharper and does it really have better build quality?

good lawd, read some review sights and stfu, and why are you questioning what people are saying, jeeez

best price/quality ratio. ever.

also if you happen to own film slr, like i do, this lens will be ever more awesome.

I have both. The 1.4 is slightly better built and may be slightly sharper. The 1.8 is still sharper than any other lens in the Nikon line and is better built that most of the lenses in the line, so as has already been said it's definitely the best price/quality ratio out there. The difference in build quality between the Nikon 1.8 and 1.4 is not nearly as significant as the difference between the Canon 1.8 and 1.4.

Only get the 1.4 if you really need that extra 2/3 of a stop or if you have the money to burn.

Ummm.....

yeah, that's an overstatement.

I found the 50/1.8 to be far less sharp in the corners wide open than my 40/2 Ultron. Though stopped down to f/4 it's about as sharp as it gets.

But for the price, you can't beat the f/1.8.
