negative scanning?

What is the best way to get old negatives scanned? I kinda just put a negative sheet up on my monitor with a white background and took a shot with my Nikon. I've seen adapters that can be fitted over the lens of digital camera... but I dunno... I don't think it would be worth it for me to invest in a good scanner because I hardly shoot film anymore. Suggestions?

Do you mean a dedicated film/negative scanner or just a plain old flatbed scanner? Those aren't as expensive but probably better than the method you're using now. I generally don't do much with my negatives, aside from store them in a box someplace. If you really have no use for a scanner in general, then I don't know what else to tell you.
