Assignment Time Rules Twizzler !!5DQ9dr9UfIj
MODS PLEASE STICKY THIS

Overview: To combat the cancer that is spreading on 4chan, it has been decided to start a voluntary weekly Assignment Time.
Each week, a different theme or idea will be given out. Anyone who wishes to enter their photograph must do so anonymously to better promote the equality in this contest.
The winner (by poll on http://www.poll4you.com) will be the subject of INTERNET FAME for the entire week. They will not be allowed to post in the week that they win to better promote everyone on the board.
You may shoop your picture as much as you want.
Winner claims by posting unshooped/fullsize image.
If you want to identify yourself somehow, use http://www.guerrillamail.com as a disposable email addy. It's pretty friendly.

Rules:
- Take a picture according to the theme presented for the week.
- Resize/shoop the picture according to what you want to post. Make sure you do not post the original.
- Post as Anonymous or your picture will not be counted. This prevents discrimination/favoritism.
- Please refrain from discussion of any kind.

Comment too long. Clickhereto view the full text.

It's always fun when two people post and everyone forgets about it because the mods don't do stickies.

Yay! excited! and here are just some my thoughts for this thing.

Should the picture be taken on the week itself? It would be better that way to keep it active and not all about recycled work.

Photos entered in an earlier week can't be reentered in another week whether it has won or not even if it still matches the theme. That way there's always something new.

EXIF should be retained but the Camera brand/model and photographer should be stripped to avoid favoritism as well.

100% crop should be enough to prove identity. This is just so no one can steal our work. Heh.

We need a maximum resolution for entries like 1024 pixels on the longer side or area of the photo is limited to 1 megapixel. This is to avoid pixel peeping and give an even playing ground for those with high end dSLRs, low end dSLRs, and even those with point and shoots.

Should we add titles to our photos? It would be nice if it were optional. A good title can add creative merit and emphasize an aspect of the photo while some photos are better off without titles. The title shouldn't be on the photo itself, it can just be the text in the post.

No borders or frames! It can give an unfair advantage or disadvantage to all the other photos with no frames or a different border. Or we can decide that all photos must have an identical border.

>>167988
i like your ideas! :D
>> Anonymous
>>167988
Agree with all except your thing about border..

Adding borders could be considered as part of the shop.. and could be part of the artistic view of the photographer..
If were gonna disallow borders, we should disallow artificial vignetting, or text, or any shopping for that matter...

having said that, I personally hate borders on most photos.

>personally, I can't wait! Besides ac, you'd win every week haha!
Well, first off, the absolute most I could do is win every other week according to the rules. And secondly, I think you're vastly overestimating my photographic abilities.

And also... it's been tried before. Everyone's all "Yay! Awesome! I'm totally going to do this!" on the first day when the thread's up, we come up with all sorts of rules, and then it completely fizzles.

The best response anything like this has ever gotten was that city-in-six-pictures challenge we had a while back. We need more things like that. But I'm too uncreative to come up with good ideas for challenges, and evidence suggests that the same goes for everyone else.

Coming up with contest rules is easy. Actually coming up with a sustainable contest is much, much harder. Getting people to participate in more than just the "Hey, let's come up with rules!" stage is nigh impossible.

PROVE ME WRONG, /p/!

it was suggested yesterday that the first week be completely open as to appeal to every anon

How bout that?
>> Anonymous
Apparently, internet fame isn't much of a reward. If only we could get>>158636to show her face to the winner as a prize. What a delightful shitstorm that would be.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>168013
Compelling logic, but doesn't work with real human psychology. You say "Take a picture of anything", most people go "Well... I can't think of anything good to take a picture of...". If you say "take a picture of a surly frog" then people will go "Hey, I know something that would be *great* for the Surly Frog contest!"

Even though a surly frog picture would work perfectly for the "Anything at all" contest, people won't think of it. Just how these things work.
>> Anonymous
>They will not be allowed to post in the week that they win to better promote everyone on the board.

Do you just mean "enter the contest" or not post at all?

>Please refrain from discussion of any kind.

Why? There's nothing wrong with these things being critiqued and discussed.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>168019
That's another good point.

With no discussion from people following the rules, the thread will be kept alive entirely by
1. Trolls
2. People joining in the contest

Since group #2 will be pretty small and group #1 is fickle and more likely to troll in a gear thread, the contest thread's gonna drop off the board pretty quickly.
>> Anonymous
>>168019
enter the contest

And i was trying to stop shitstorm posts and trolls.

It should read "Please refrain from discussion that would detract from the contest. These include trolling and namecalling, among other things. Honest Critique is appreciated"
>> Anonymous
>>168021
cmon, ac, give it a shot

>>167983
Well, we would have to have the support of a mod to do this.
That would be the ideal

>>167988
I don't want to have too many rules now. It would go bad with the open and funness of the contest.
>> Anonymous
>>168063
Moot has instructed moderators not to do a sticky to alleviate the "should I buy D40x or Rebel XTi" plague, so I doubt he would let them sticky this.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
4chan doesnt have mods, what on earth are you lot thinking.

Also im planning on doing that city in 6 shots tommorow (eventually, im much faster with contracts)

>EXIF should be retained but the Camera brand/model and photographer should be stripped to avoid favoritism as well.

Still a problem with this. If the EXIF shows f/1.2, you know whoever is shooting is has a nice lens. If it shows f/2.8 and there's massive depth of field, you know they have a small sensor camera. If it's ISO 3200 and clean, you know they have a 5D/D3/D300. If it says "NORISTU WHATEVER IT IS" you know it's scanned film.

Strip all EXIF. It doesn't matter anyway.
>> Anonymous
>>168360
seconded.

Obviously leave exif data in when posting the full size original to claim the prize, but apart from that no exif makes it a level playing field.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>168360
>Still a problem with this.
Also, it's probably beyond the abilities of most people here to selectively edit their EXIF. Stripping EXIF entirely is a lot easier.

>> Even_Steven !!rUmVORA7JiP
So when is the cutoff for submissions, and when does voting start?
>> Anonymous
It has become apparent that /p/ does not have moderators.
HOWEVER it is also apparent that /p/ does have janitors.

This means that images that are against the rules can be deleted, but people cannot be B& and threads cannot be stickied.

Mods sure must hate /p/ I guess.
