Not the Mamiya?
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>294064
Basically cause I got a great deal on it. The D3 also has better processing power than the D700 when it comes to the AF, there's a reason for the massive batteries on the D3 and why the D700 needs an AF illuminator at night.

Though this decision could bite me in the arse when the rumoured D3x comes out later this month.

>>294070
main reason why i went against the mamiya is that there are several new digi MF coming out, it made for a harder decision.

Meanwhile, i'm getting serious about film and a 4x5 LF, just need to take lessons/read up on film processing.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>294075
ahh ok, just curious, For me as much as I love shooting in low light, I think I would buy the D700 myself because of the price and size.
I have really good low light AF lenses, so Its not usually a problem to attain focus.
>> Anonymous
>>294075
The possible upcoming D3X is a big part of why I haven't bought a D3 myself.

In a way, though, I'm really tempted to just get a D700 and put a wide on it, and then keep the 70-200 on the D2 to take advantage of the FPS and the extra reach of DX.

the newest national geographic has a piece on light pollution. the photography is absolutely brilliant, and i couldn't figure out why it was so striking. i'm an avid night photographer, and i had never seen anything like what jim richardson had accomplished. the images were so clean and vibrant. i finally realized that he had been using a D3, which is a truly revolutionary camera as far as low light photography is concerned. it can honestly do things that nothing else in the history of the medium can.

picture related. check out his website for even better examples. there's some pretty amazing stuff that didn't get published.

and goddamn i want me some d3.

cool camera bro

I'd definitely love to be a happy owner of a D3, however i can not justify that expense, just bought some studio lights and I don't think I really should have.

hopefully I land work with some company that issues cameras and I don't have to worry about buying shit.

also, this wasn't mean to be so much nikonfaggotry as it was digitalfaggotry. there are some things that digital does so much better than film that people are just barely starting to take advantage of it.

>>294100
All that means is he's using a manual lens, probably becaus AF Nikkors tend to be slower than their MF counterparts (e.g. 50mm f/1.4 versus 1.2, 35 f/2 versus 1.4, 24 f/2.8 versus f/2, etc.) and AF sucks shit in low light.

>>294075
>Meanwhile, i'm getting serious about film and a 4x5 LF, just need to take lessons/read up on film processing.

Ah, makes sense then. Don't buy a new one for thousands like you've been talking about, though. It makes no sense when ones just as good or better are available for a few hundred.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
>>294102

yeah, i'm not freaking about about the f/1.0. my d300 does that for my 1.8, too. it's just rare to see a digital photo with all the exif intact, including gps data, from a pro photographer. it's like a little glimpse behind the scenes.

What's the difference between the D700 and the D3?
IQ/ISO wise. Or is there none?

I know the technical details and other than the weather proofing the D3's features seem surplus to any realistic application, for me at least.

>>294100

>> Anonymous
>>294104
Oh, yeah. David Alan Harvey leaves EXIF on the stuff he posts to his blog, too, if you want some more of that.

>>294107
None. Same sensor.

D300/700 are both well-sealed, too. Probably not quite as much as the D3, but enough for even most intense applications.

The full coverage finder is a difference between the two that would matter for me personally, but you might be different.

I should be getting my 70-200 f/2.8L IS tomorrow. That'll bring me to about 100 grams less than your setup (5D + BG-E4 + 2 batteries + 70-200). Good thing I'm in the military X-D

Physical training together at least 3 times a week and alone in addition to that, training on setting up expedient ATC gear, annual training to include rifle/pistol range, swimming, and various classes like first aid, 24-hour guard duties, all kinds of other silly classes and meetings, and even mail order classes from the Marine Corps Institute that are sometimes a requirement to be promoted and which otherwise go toward your promotion or on your fitness report. A few of my buddies have been on convoys in Iraq, which entails manning the .50 cal on top of a 7-ton or pointing an M16 out of the window of a HMMWV. I've been to Iraq as well, but luckily I stayed on base the entire time. Besides the daily mortar attacks on the base, it wasn't so bad.

Not SPDE here, obviously, but pick your military:

- Troops intended to work in administrative, technical, or other non-battle conditions are no more trained or physically fit than the average civilian doing their job.
- Troops intended to work in etc. etc. are every bit as physically fit and well-trained at combat as combat troops, and can stand in for them in the case of a lack of personnel, can hold their base if it comes under attack without immediate combat reenforcements, or if their skills are needed in an immediate battle zone. (E.g.>>294389.)

Which one would you rather have?

Fail troll is fail. lol.

FYI i've got the 28-70 with the 70-200mm. Wanted the 24-70 but got the 28-70 at 500 dollars, couldn't say no.

>>294153
YEah i still do have the D70s, but it's not getting any use... funnily enough i still prefer to shoot with that, mainly cause it's so simple to operate. The 51 points on the D300 & and D3 can actually be a pain in the arse. WIll post photo later sometime, only just woke up after a long night of snapping and partying.

And ummm holy fuck, Wedding = Hot Chicks who love photographers... SCORE
