An adapter ring. One side is shaped like one lens mount's male end, in this case the Canon EOS mount, and takes the place of the back of the lens. It hooks onto the camera.

The other side is shaped like the female end of a lens mount, in this case the Nikon F mount, and takes the place of the camera's mounting point. The other-mount lens is hooked onto it.

His treachery runs deeper than you know. By foul craft, Saruman has crossed Nikkor lenses with Canon bodies. He's breeding a camera in the caverns of Isengard. A camera that can use ISO 1600 in sunlight and cover a great depth of field. Saruman is coming for the Adapter Ring.
