Weddings ANTMY !qDIAcd3vJM
This saturday is my first wedding. I'm not sure how many people on /p/ have done a wedding, but i have a few questions. All input is greatly appreciated.

1.) I'll be sporting two cameras (Canon Rebel xsi & Canon 40D) i know neither are superb wedding photography SLR's, but it's not exactly this most extravagant event...very small wedding, and i think i'll have plenty of coverage. The Question is, what lenses should i primarily keep on both. I know i am going to need to change back and forth for different situations but here are my choices. Canon 17-35L, Canon 50mm f/1.4, Canon 24mm f/2.8, & Tamron 70-300mm. Any good Combo's so to speak?

2.) We've agreed on all the images being put on a disk. What is a good file size to give them, to insure the pictures are large enough for most of their printing needs.

3.) Provide some tips and strategies for a successful day of wedding photography.

I have a million more questions. But im sure /p/ doesn't give a fuck, and those are my main concerns.

pshaw, people make weddings to be the ultimate test of a photographer, give me a fucking break

unless you hit some psycho cali/welcome to the OC bitch, people in real life are not picky. family, church, ring, kiss, cake, kids, friends and they are happy

this is not rocket science

Rent means, buy it and return it in 14 days or less for a full refund :)

4: Reception
Assuming you go to the reception, you are probably going to be indoors with nasty yellow lighting, Use a diffuser and bounce the flash for everything you do. Set aperture around f2.5 to keep the DOF predictable and shutter speed slow enough to burn in a bit of the backlighting.
Get table shots, Cake pictures (before and during the cutting of the cake). Little detail shots like the table setups and the center peices. Macro works well here if any of your lenses can focus close.

Your 50mm f1.4 will pretty much all you will be able to use here, the 17-35 for table / group shots maybe.
You generally don't interfere here, just hang around and get the speech pictures, bride / grooms reaction.

Important shots to get, First dance, Throwing of the corsage thing, Cutting of the cake, uhh I feel like i'm missing something else..

External flash HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommended, it will give you the AF assist light too (I assume canon's flash's have that) It makes focusing in nasty light SOO MUCH BETTER.

thats everything i can think of right now.

If you have time, yes definitely.
But make sure you do have time to set them up / move them around, etc.
usually this is shot inbetween the ceremony and the reception, so you have a couple hours or even less...

flower toss, dance with parents, b&g entrance, best man speech/speeches.

By the time you're 3 or 4 songs into the dancing, most wedding photographers leave, (I used to dj weddings) nothing interesting happens after that.

There's a tutorial I looked up before I did my first wedding which included what shots you MUST get.
Google it.
But yeah, bring a backup SLR if possible.
Give them the full res images. Edit a shitload of em but also give em the originals.
If possible do prints and buy a photobook (if you're getting paid enough).
Make sure you have a good understanding of bounce flash before you do the wedding, you'll need it.
And good luck.

make sure you sleep with the bridesmaid. it is considered one of the perks of the job and people expect you to.

Most aspects have been covered here...

But in all honesty, your first wedding should only even be for free, assisting a skilled photographer!

No better way to learn the roped, pick up tricks that would take you a long time to work out, and most importantly, if you fuck up (and you will), its not a big deal

The couple getting married are friends, and they are having some money issues right now, like most of us, so i told them i would do it really cheap. ($350 + tip).

Thanks for the tip, i wasn't sure if i should just give them the ones that i edited or not.

In that case, best of luck!!!

Make sure they know its your first and you might not get it 100% right.
