so the wife bought me a canon Powershot S3 IS as an early birthday present. any tips, or any serious problems with it? This is my first digital camera, and previously I only worked with an old Ricoh KR-5sv (35mm, base stock lense etc.)

yeah tip #1: never ever use iso 800. in fact if you can find a way to disable it would you please tell me?

tip #2: shutter lag time. it's almost half a second. that can screw up timed shots. set your continuous shooting mode to high (there are 2 speeds, one that shoots roughly 2/sec and one that shoots roughly 3/sec) and use Tv, Av, P, or M for action shots. the sports mode is practically useless as it does not allow high-rate continuous shooting and is fixed at 1/60sec which gives me a lot of motion blur.

i JUST got this damn thing and i'm already eager to upgrade. i'm sticking with the philosophy that it's not worth it until i'm so good that the S3 is limiting the quality of my photos. thank god i still suck because i'm too poor for more toys.

anyone know where i can find a job?
