Sensor cleaning - DSLR Anonymous
So I got me some Sensor swabs and some eclipse solution for my D70. ..
Should I just go in and do it? or are there certain hints/warnings I should know beforehand?
Anyone in /p/ experienced with this?

http://www.bythom.com/cleaning.htm

There is a nifty video, and some hints how to optimize it. I have never done i my self, but i thought it might help you. Good luk.

If you only have dust then use a large blower bulb. Those sensor swabs are for residue or massive amounts of crud on your sensor (or if you like to clean your equipment thoroughly once a year or something)

Using them regularly is expensive and unnecessary.

I use a very small brush and vacuum to do it. Just a light touch and I avoid using solvents. Works well so far.

I usually just run warm water over mine.

As do I... Warm water and a clean dry towel afterwards usually does the trick.

I like to use a nice fine-grit sandpaper on my sensor before putting it under the water tap for a while. Sometimes the warm water doesn't get the more resiliant clumps of dirt, after all.

If you can construct or buy some sort of lathe and chuck to attach the camera to you can get the cleaning done much quicker once it starts spinning. Works great for cleaning my lenses.

I tried warm water... I don't think it may have made it worse.

...I really, really hope you're trolling.

I send mine back to the factory, it's like 60$.

Canon was cool with it and because my number of actuations was fairly high, they've replaced the mirror or whatever that moving thing is for free.

The fine sandpaper got rid of my dead pixels. Apparently, dead pixels are just ones that aren't as smooth as the surrounding pixels.

Do what you want, but my advice is to take it in and have it done by professionals with better tools and more experience.

Trying to clean your own sensor without knowing what you're doing is how you completely fuck up your camera.
