I was watching some TV doco and they kept going on about autochrome pictures. I was curious as to what the hell they were so wiki'd it. It appears it's colour picture process that predates colour photography and is trying to be revived. The problem is that some of the technique has been lost to time and trying to recreate it exactly is difficult? Anyhow apparently the movie The Illusionist tried to recreate the look of autochrome and won an Oscar (Or was it nominated for one I forgot?).

I don't know details, but everytime I've seen these, I've been amazed by how three dimensional they look. That, and actually seeing color from that long ago make for an interesting perspective, makes it seem more real.
