CPL, yet again Anonymous
sup /p/

I asked you a few days ago where the differences between a cheap (or "bad") and expensive (or "good") polarizer filter lie.
Beside some other results, I think the most important thing for a CPL is the coating, which makes the filter also more expensive..
Now I'm wondering, if the "Kenko Circular Polarizer Filter 58mm" is actually any better than the Targus 10$ CPL from Walmart.

Pic related, its a comparison shot (that I DID NOT take) with and without the "Kenko Circular Polarizer Filter 58mm".
It looks like it does its job good, as on the right pic there are less reflections on the box although the shutter time was way higher. (because the background is overexposed)
Ah btw, this filter costs ~25USD.

Bad example.

I've got a cheap "KOOD" cpl. i'll post examples with it as soon as the my battery charges.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
glass quality, mostly. The Targus claims and appears to be multicoated too, so it's not just the coat that makes the price difference. It's crappy mounting hardware and cheaper glass.

Why can't ANYONE give us side by side shots that are exactly the same, using exactly the same subject, with and without a cheapo CPL?

Why is it so fucking hard to NOT MOVE THE FUCKING CAMERA?!?

Odds are, if they're buying the cheapo, they don't own a decent filter to compare to.

I would just like to see with/without shots.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>196672
I didn't label because I assumed /p/ knew enough about polarizers to guess what was going on.

Top row was metered off of the ground, shots are; no filter, lowest polarization, mid polarization, max polarization.

Bottom row is metered off of the sky; no filter, medium polarization, max polarization.

Could someone take pictures with and without (cheap or expensive) CPL where there is a bright light source right outside the picture? This would show differences in the coating like ghosts and lens flares and would add some more substance to this recurring threads.

So the "Kenko Circular Polarizer Filter 58mm" (which is Hoya I think, as Kenko is the same like Hoya iirc) is good? Maybe I'm lucky any somebody here has that filter.

u got that for 20 bucks?
as far as i know kenko has two "build classes", the normal ones and the good ones.
your "pro" is the good one i think, but i didnt think they are that cheap
>> $19.99 !OSYhGye6hY

No it was $55 (+ $5 shipping), Still much cheaper than the $120 they usually are. Just lurk ebay, cheapest for camera accessories.

>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>199628
No. Get your eyes checked.

It DOES act sort of like an ND, but that's not the reason you buy a polarizer.
>> Anonymous
It looks like 19.99s polarizer looks like it's better than $10 cpl by targus from walmart.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>199631
because his isn't as cheap as mine (price & quality wise)

They both do the same thing, though. His is just more noticeable and better made.

Did you take them, or are they from the auction? Auctions always heavily photoshop that shit.

Also, kenko isn't the same as Hoya.
>> $19.99 !OSYhGye6hY
>>199670
I took those three comparison shots, the auction shots do look shooped though.
And kenko and hoya are pretty much the same thing, they even have the same class denominations and packaging.

I know I said I was done with the $10 CPL by Targus from Walmart pictures and shit, but I just had to post this one.

Crap shot but waaay more dramatic than my other test shots.

Hey, that actually works pretty well, you might want to stay away from f22 though, diffraction.
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>199898
yeah, I never really shoot that closed up, I was trying to draw out my exposure before I took those to try and get as slow of an exposure as I could. Sunny coasts just aren't good for it without an ND, though. Anyway, I noticed that with the water and the sky it was a perfect opportunity to take a real test shot, so I just adjusted the polarizer and went with it.

To the $10 CPL trolls; whose cheap CPL doesn't work now?
>> Anonymous
>>199895
You just underexposed the photo, idiot, that polarizer doesn't work at all. You wasted ten dollars.
