CS4 has been up to pirate for a little while in non beta form, how does /p/ like it? I currently have it downloaded and installed in trial form.

what's the point? PS7 can still do the same shit. i hate that even software is now made for obsolescence. it's the equivalent of camera manufacturers changing their lens mount design every year. fucking rage.
>> Anonymous
Settle down, why does matter? You can pirate the shit so easily.

CS3 is still good

No PS7 doesn't do the same shit, or even the same shit as well. I haven't gotten to play with CS4 yet, but the differences between CS2 and CS3 are strong enough that I'd imagine that if you had the cash to blow it would be worth upgrading to it.

multimedia student, the basis of my field is to learn programs every year they come up with a damn new version even if you can do better shit in the previous one.

>the differences between CS2 and CS3 are strong enough
hahaha, oh wow...

too obvious, troll harder.

Eh, every other version of photoshop can be skipped.

I'm completely serious. They slipped in a bunch of little features in CS3 that I love, like refine edge for masking. The panorama stitcher and raw editor are vastly superior as well.

>>286378
I would buy that for $ 100. Now, seriously WHY the fuck does this shit have to be so expensive? I mean it's their own fault it gets pirated like the bible is getting stolen from hotel rooms.

well, they've got Photoshop Elements for us poorfags...
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s

It costs so much because everyone keeps pirating it.

>>286414
Isn't that a self-perpetuating process?
>> else !L6xabslN96
>>286414
don't be silly, it costs a fortune cuz you can potentially make a fortune from it. think of all the design studios that use it.

i find it perfectly acceptable(and so does my educational institution) to pirate and use it as long as i'm not making money off it.

but photoshop is overkill when it comes to photography work. take a decent photo to begin with and fix it up in free software like picasa. i mainly use it for epic shoop da whoop projects now that i have picasa to fix my histograms.

Wasn't PS expensive even before people began pirating the shiat out of it?

All software was expensive back then, i mean _ALL_

>>286428
you could get a nice sum if you reported your institution for using pirated versions instead of the considerably cheaper and fully supported education versions. Corprate piracy is much more harmful than user piracy not only in cost but in enforcing the mentality that pirating is ok.

>>286416
Somewhat, a lot of the older software has come down in price a lot more compared to PS and some of it is pirated more/less. There isnt a single answer.
>> else !L6xabslN96
>>286436
they don't officially support piracy, the workstations have proper licences. when it comes to homework however...

also, 2nd world country, nobody really gives a shit about piracy here except the globalist corporations.

i use open source and free software where ever i can.

>>286436

Nonsense. All software wasn't so expensive.

It is ridiculously expensive because they can get away with it. Simple as that. Same for a lot of other software out there. They'll charge as much as they can, judged to be just shy of the breaking point for the customers. Blaming all your problems or customer's woes on pirates is the classic old excuse and about as valid as blaming Jews or women for everything that goes wrong with your life. Divert attention to the bogeyman instead of you. It's pathetic when companies and people make excuses for these things and hide behind them, rather than simply own up to it and admit they made the choice. If there was no piracy in the world, it would cost exactly the same as they'll always price it to whatever the market will stand. You'd have to be stupid to believe otherwise. They aren't going to reduce the price if they know you are willing to pay it.

Agree with this statement. Just take the damn picture right the first time and don't go back. like in the good ol' days, the all or nothin' days...

I have tooled around with PS. Its very powerful for editing/altering/designing, but its way over the top for day to day shots (photojournofag)

Do you have any idea how hard it is to write software or how much work, time, and effort? Processors from Intel weigh only a few grams and are made of silicon, and some conductive alloys which are highly abundant in the world and they manufacture so much, the cost is distributed very thinly that it takes less than $50 to fabricate and ship a $1000 Quad Core. Why is it so expensive then? Because of all the engineers that worked on it. Software is expensive because of the development. Just because it's intangible doesn't mean it should be free.

What about the "Student Edition" of software? They can afford to give that discounted because the cost is offset by the "Professional Edition" they would also sell and I'm sure Professionals who earn a living on that software can easily make the money back after a project or two, much like professional gear. It's an application of the Pareto principle (wiki it). A majority off Adobe's income came from a small percentage of their customers, namely, the Professionals who use the Master Collection and the majority of their customers (student editions, PS Essentials) contribute a smaller percentage.

So stop thinking all software should be free as in beer.

I dont remember photo editing software starting out cheap, i dont remember any design software ever starting out cheap. When NewTek released Lightwave at the 2k mark it was groundbreaking.

I'm not saying that the reason CS4 master is not 50bux is only due to pirates, but despite making a huge number of versions for most price markets its still hugely pirated.

I think the vast majority of the people pirating Photoshop for home use only do it because it is a big name and because it is so easy. There are a lot of free alternatives that easily would be able to do more than they would ever need and many other very cheap alternative suites to Adobe if they wanted to buy one for some reason. These are the people that would have ended up buying Serif's stuff or downloading The Gimp if it wasn't for the current ease of access to Photoshop through the seedy underworld of the internet.

I think in some ways it may be an advantage for Photoshop to be used even by a pirate if they would have ended up with someone who would have used a free alternative like The Gimp or a competitor instead. Kind of like MS happily letting the Chinese pirate their software for some time so they could get market penetration and advertising/familiarity with their system spread everywhere. They can stamp down on commercial use by checking licences and saturate the market as the No. 1 photo editing system for everyone, encouraging other people to buy the system for home use when it's completely unnecessary for home users really when you see all the alternatives out there.

I agree, i already said that only companies are chased after for licences.

I've heard rather senior people in 3D software mention how awesome pirating is to increase avalible users for the fully paid houses.
