Did you sell your 350d and all the lenses that are 1.6x crop factor designed?

The 5D is full frame, so lenses just got more expensive for you! I've been trying to collect a decent amount of Nikon full frame lenses, for when eventually Nikon releases a full frame DSLR. Problem is they are ridiculously expensive compared to the DX series ones.

What makes you think that Nikon will release camera with full frame sensor ?
>> Anonymous
>>32038

Uh, the DX lenses aren't significantly less expensive than comparable full frame ones. Perhaps you're comparing apples and oranges...

>>32043

Nikon has said several times that they have no intention of releasing a full frame DSLR. They plan on developing a full range of high end DX lenses instead.

I didn't specifically mean Nikon lenses, just Nikon mount lenses, For example compare the Nikon 28-70mm f2.8 to the Sigma 24-70 f2.8, Sigma is 1/3rd the price, but only DX.

Then look at the Sigma 15-30mm And the Sigma 10-20mm, 15-30mm is more expensive, but it can be mounted on film cameras (at the exact same focal length as a DSLR)

just stuff like that, also some of their DX lenses aren't so hot quality wise, 18-55 and 18-135 come to mind right away.

Plus full frame lenses can be used on Nikon Film bodies, Which I don't have yet, BUT I do plan on getting one specifically for B&W shots. And I don't completely trust Nikon's promise that they won't make a full frame sensor, If Canon's 5D takes off (Which I think it somewhat will) Then Nikon basically has no choice but to follow in their footsteps or get left in the dust when their previous clientelle leaves them.

Its how the market works!

O RLY?

Could you provide links to said statements? Seems a bit weird.

yeah im sorry i have to question this aswell. From their point of view they arnt going to advertise the fact that they will soon be releasing a new system that will be better than the old one. it would put ppl off buying their current products. If nikon dont increase the sensor size they will be left behind.

I don't see why this is so hard to believe. Exactly why do you believe that full frame sensors are superior ? Of course, noise, but noise can be reduced without increasing the sensor size. Full frame sensors create more problems than they solve, light falloff, chromatic aberration, corner softness, less DOF, $$$.

But yeah, I too want to see where Nikon said that they wont release camera w/ FF sensor. I have heard this before, but I can't find the source.

I've read the same thing in some UK photo mag, but I'm too lazy to get a link.
I'd say that for a Nikon owner this is a good thing - quality glass at a much lower price.
That said, I still believe Nikon will eventually (in 1,5-2 years) release a full frame body.

OP: I assume that putting your eye to the viewfinder brought a smile to your face, yes? :D
I own a 350D and more or less own a 5D and that was my first reaction when I held the 5D. The viewfinder's simply SO bright.

Among a number of other (mainly non-L :/) lenses I have the f/4.5-5.6L 100-400mm IS USM and I have to say that using it with the 5D is just so much better.. At longer focal lengths and apertures of f/5.6 and above the viewfinder on the 350D gets ridiculously dark, especially when there's little light.

Then again the 100-400mm is a bit too low quality for the 5D :(

I have a nikon f80 (I prefer film, I won't preach if you won't bitch), and it's convinced me to never buy a nikon ever again, as the ttl metering system is off by 2 fstops, but only with certain settings, and I have no way of getting it fixed right now. I also work with 4 other photographers that have abberant light meter problems with new nikons. Enjoy it!

If they don't come out with a FF sensor, they'll be dead?

Funny. People said the same thing about CMOS vs CCD- that if Nikon didn't make a CMOS sensor, they'd be out of the market. I'm a canon user, but...funny how Nikon is still around. And how at the moment you'd be a fool to buy a 30D, unless you had EF/EF-S glass already.
