Hey, /p/, at least we're not dpreview.

"Hello dear fellow fotografers,

I bought my 40D in 27th December 2007 though the upgrade from my 20D was minor,was also tempted to buy the Nikon D300 because of significant resolution from 8 to 12.2 megapixel,but i crossed my fingers and took the 40D instead,now am totally shocked to see they've put a 12.2 mp in the 450D instead of the 40D,why have they done this,I feel like being stabbed in my back,this is really unfair,is this a marketing strategy or have they gone nuts,this is really paining me,hope to hear what you think guys,i feel that i want to cry,
thx

Well, I can see why he's upset. Moar megapixulz == Better photographs, after all.

It's this kind of shit that sickens me when I read DPReview. It clogs the place up. The gimps there are worried about buying battery grips or other stupid things for a camera that isn't even on the shelves. URGH.

Would "should of bought a D80 " be out of place here?

He'd need to take CS III before tackling such a task.

By that point you may as well be designing and building your own cameras and make some profit from this ground breaking effort and skill.

I've seen someone change lenses on a 350D while smoking a cigarette. Can you guess where the ash went?

Fuck's sake. Some people are unbelievable.

This is retarded.

40D= $1200
450D= $800

Together, that's $2000. Which is about the price of a 5D, which is 12.8 megapixels and full frame.

Well yeah, but 40D + 450D = 490D, which has a 22 megapixel sensor that's 2xAPS-C sized. Lrn2math.

That would be pretty awesome.

FWIW, I think some camera company should introduce a 36x36mm sensor camera in whatever mount they have, in the same way there was 645 and 6x6mm medium format cameras. Most, if not all, lenses designed for 36x24mm sensors ought to cover it. I'm sure they'd get some pros who don't want to/can't afford a medium format back but who want the extra image quality and cropping flexibility.

a new format like that designed for digital might not be a bad idea.

36x36 would lead to massive vignetting in the corners. 24x24 would work, but that would (obviously) be smaller than full frame.

There is one camera system that uses a closer-to-square aspect ratio... But they fucked it up with a 2x crop ratio sensor.

Are you sure? It'd probably work with some lenses, and worst case scenario we get special lenses for the format (which would also work for 36x24 and APS-C) and software correction for vignetting on other lenses, like the M8 has.

As far as I know, lenses are generally designed to project the minimum image circle they can get away with for cost and complexity reasons. 24x36 fits in a significantly smaller circle than does 36x36.
>> Anonymous
>>118330
Yes, but their image circles are image *circles*. There shouldn't be that much difference between the horizontal edges and the vertical edges of a lens.

wow

read the thread

just fuckin wow...

Nevermind, I just traced it out. I see what you're getting at.

Still, it'd be possible to do something like that. Maybe a different and new line of lenses or something.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA

Like.. medium format digital? Already exists. Hellaciously expensive.

>>118404
No, something based on the 135-based digital, with a sensor in between that and MF digital, biased towards the size of 135 and able to maybe use some of its lenses. It'd at least be able to use PC lenses.

Medium format's cheapest system is that $9,999 Mamiya, with a 48x36mm sensor back. Shaving 12mm off a sensor probably will lower the price a bit, especially if the exact idea of the companies is to compete against digital medium format by offering a camera with a similar feature set, compatibility with their existing system (even if not in lenses, in accessories, flashes, etc.) and a square ratio (not too important in practice, but it would be a selling point for people who miss their old 6x6 cameras) at a cheaper price than any medium format system. Probably somewhere between what the price of a 5D replacement and a 1Ds Mk. III would be. It wouldn't have all the weatherproofing, ultra-fast shutter, 45 autofocus points and all that, but it would have a larger sensor.
