Pictures of what happens when an 84 Toyota Camry goes up against a full sized 95 Dodge Ram.

Protip: The Dodge won.

I could probably do better, so any tips on taking good pictures with a cheap 3.1 digital camera would be very appreciated. Or just taking better photos in general.

If all you want to do is be an idiot without giving any suggestions on how to take better pictures, then I'll just post the rest in order to cause you personal angst. Thanks for being an easy target.

These were taken in natural lighting around midday, very early afternoon.

Now, if anyone has anything useful to say, how can I take better pictures? Obviously the light could have been a lot better, but that's what I had to work with. I've found it very easy to take good pictures when all the conditions are right, but are there any ways to make the images better when conditions are poor?

Working on composition and framing and whatnot is the best thing you can do. After that, learn how to do some basic digital postprocessing (the 'Levels' control is awesome). But composition is the most important thing.

Thanks. That looks very useful. As mentioned, even this junky camera can do some nice stuff when everything is good to go. But for general pictures, it'd be nice to not shop everything into looking better than the original.

you are really funny.
your photos do really suck ass.
I bet you do on purpose just for trolling.

Doesn't sound like trolling to me. Trolling implies that they want some sort of angry response. They're crappy newbie pictures, but not bad enough to suggest that he's trying to get us to flame him. Just the sort of pictures someone who doesn't really take pictures would take.

If it were a troll, he'd want to throw in some pretentiousness and refuse to admit that his pictures weren't teh awesome.

Don't assume everything's a troll.

hey I have shitty car pics to add here too!
This is what happens when your friends watch too much initial D, (I was in the back seat of the car)
It flipped on its roof after planting its nose in a ditch, I sprained my pinky finger and got a bit of rugburn on my knee..

Smashed up car pic from me. From back in 2005, so not so much with the good. It was right after I'd gotten my first camera worth speaking of and I had just started learning how to take pictures worth looking at.

(This wasn't one of them)

I think it's telling that my first thought after my van came to a stop was "Oh shit, my camera!"

The bad thing is, I know how crappy this camera is, but it was free. When I get to borrow a friend's nicer camera, and have good conditions, I get this result.

And this also. So taking good pictures with a good camera and good conditions is easy. I want to know how to make it better when things aren't so good.

If I can make my bad photos become better, then my better ones should also improve, yes?

these photos are their own kind of trouble.

you can't move the subject.
you need photos from every angle.
it's inconvenient or too late to come back at a different time of day.

The best thing you can do is lock exposure / focus. Make sure your camera gets exposure lock on a medium-toned spot on the car, then reframe and take the picture. Take 2 or 3 of each angle, trying slightly different lock points, and hopefully you'll get at least one that can be suitably adjusted in post.

you really won't get much better than this without high end equipment and post-processing.

pardon me, I didn't mean "high end equipment", I meant "higher end equipment." obviously you don't need to spend 4 grand on a camera to take outdoor pics of broken cars. you just need a camera with a good quality CCD with a wider chromatic range.

Op here. Thanks for the info. I'll try some of the suggestions here, and hopefully I'll get better. I'm not aiming to be a professional. I'd just like to take normal pictures and have nicer results on a regular basis.
