i have a canon powershot a540

i got it as a gift used. how can i best use this camera to get better before i buy a newer camera in the future. i`m taking alot of shots with it, but you have to hold the camera perfectly still or the picture goes blurry as hell. how should i set the exposure to work the fastest?

does anyone have experience with his model?

Your photography level is too low for this board. Go out to your local library or book store and pick up a book on basic photography.

I don't mean to be rude or flippant. It's just that the only reasonable, accurate answer to "How should I set the exposure to work the fastest" is "correctly", which won't help you much.

OP here

the reason i asked is the camera doesnt sem to be working quite right and i wanted to know is there a way to adjust the on board setting to compensate for it. i know my level is low but maybe i should just leave the board so i wont piss off the great gods on internet photography

I have an a530. The only reason anything came out blurry is if it was too dark. Put it in Programmed exposure (P) or Manual (M), so you can see what exposure it wants and compensate.
In other words, read the manual.

real answer: Look up in the manual how to change the aperature (f stop) and shutter speed.

the aperature should be a low of number as you can get it (smaller aperature numbers allows more light to get to the sensor, a aperature of 2.8 is better than an aperature of 8), and shutter speed should be above 1/60th of a second.

Hey kid, he was being gentle. You sound like a jackass.

Now, this isn't your fault, you don't know any better, I didn't either when I first started out. But your lack of understanding is a little too profound to answer your question in the amount of time we're able to spend posting here. You need a course in basic exposure, which you can probably get if you google, definitely if you get a decent used book, and easily if you take a class.

what's Canon's top of the line model in A series?

i remember something about the 720is being fail or something and that the 640 is better, not sure

I think the A650IS is the current top-o-the-line. The A720IS appears to have a smaller sensor size unless I did my math wrong.

oops sorry, i didn't meant to say top of the line as in highest model and most expensive

but i mean best in features, because i read that the 7xx is gimped compared to 6xx but i don't know which one

Er. Okay. Well, with that new bit of information in mind...

I think the A650IS is the current top-o-the-line. The A720IS appears to have a smaller sensor size unless I did my math wrong.

Oh! Well, in that case, I think the A650IS is the current top-o-the-line. The A720IS appears to have a smaller sensor size unless I did my math wrong.
