Sup /p/.

I made that ring flash that someone posted instructions for a few days ago. It cost me less than $5 and works pretty well. Pic related (sorry to use my ugly mug for the shot but my girlfriend was doing homework. a.k.a. I don't have one). I will follow up with a shot of the whole contraption on my camera.

Here's the actual ring. I used two bowl strainers I found in Chinatown for $2, part of an oatmeal can as the tube (it was cardboard) and a bunch of aluminum foil and duck tape. It took me about 20 mins to put it all together. I'm still working on a good way to hold the flash in the bottom, right now it's just held in there by friction.

Yeah. I didn't expect it to be very powerful but I shot that one at f/8 so I've got plenty of opening up to do if necessary.

Don't make me get the packaging out of the garbage to prove it says fucking DUCK TAPE on it.

Duct tape: the stuff.
Duck Tape: the brand.
Gaffer Tape: the real deal.

Yeah, had I $8,000 or so laying around I would just buy a Profoto setup with a Pro-7 Ringlight bt that's a little out of my student budget.

Nothing that selling your dignity and body can't cover.

dont be a fucking fag about it. duct tape because it seals ducts, duck tape because it was used to weatherproof ww2 soldier's boots.

either is fine asshat.

Nice setup. What's holding up the whole thing, though? A tripod? Can you take a picture of the whole setup? I like this idea.

It's actually contraindicated for sealing ducts nowadays. No (good) professional would ever use it. "Duck tape" was the original name, it only became "Duct tape" because Duck brand took the name and made it their trademark.

I've seen you around Wareham. Didn't know you were into photography.

duct tape isnt certified or whatever to be used on ducts. back in the day some people tried using it for that but found it didnt work that good.

needs more gaffa tape

Yeah, it's all on a tripod. The actual ring is held up by my camera/lens. The oatmeal can luckily fits very snugly around my 28-70mm f2.8L so I don't need anything else to hold it on there.

That must be my twin. I wouldn't bother him.

Best name I've heard for duct tape is "jeesusteippi", or "jesari" for short. Finnish for "Jesus tape".
There's nothing you can't fix with it.

That actually looks pretty nice.
Saved the instructions, might try it as a weekend project.
