AL-F Anonymous
Hey guys, visited my local oppitunity store today and bought a Minolta AL-F. I got it for 8 bucks which seems to be the going rate for these cameras.

Anyway, its a 1967 Shutter Priority Rangefinder. You set the shutterspeed and the camera uses its meter to select an appropriate apeture from f-2.7 to f-22. If you attack a flash you can plug in the guide number and the camera will use your focusing distance to choose shutter and apeture. I've never used a range finder before, I really like the set up.

So does anyone have experience with these cameras? I'm going to buy some film during the week. Getting a battery may be a problem since they don't make PX675s anymore and the light meter depends on the right voltage. So my choice is:

1 Run with no batteries, this leaves apeture wide open so i will manually have to set shutter steed.

2 Run with alkaline batteries and do my best to adjust the iso setting for the voltage discrepency.

3 Save my pennies and order wein cells from the states.

Any thoughts?

I'd probably go with wein cells, I use them in my old pentax and it's fine. Some people stick the tab back on them when they're not in use to extend life but I don't bother. They last like 6-8 months for me.

They sell an adaptamajig for ~$30US that'll let you use easy-to-get silver batteries in place of a PX625. According to the website, it'll work with your camera. Not sure what the difference between the 675 and the 625 is, but apparently the MR-9 adapter from CRIS is close enough to replace either.

It's what I'm using to keep my Canonet running.
