You know... this is all i could get that was somewhat presentable after i got up at 4:15am.

Didn't get any decent shots at fuckin all... but i learned a valuable lesson.

Have an idea of what you want to shot and where you want to shoot it, scrounging around wasting time during sunrise only wastes what little good light you have.

...oh and if a huge wave looks like it's coming towards you... get the fuck out of the way.

helloo mediocre HDR.

But ya its good to have a list of places / angles / focal lengths in like a notebook or something.
You can't remember everything all the time.

I used to keep one, then I got lazy when winter arrived.. Snow messes up my list. :(

yeah, it's definitely mediocre at best...

actually, you got examples of decent HDRs? i'm not really good with blending and all that jazz. It would be a good skill to learn.

I use HDR's for when i'm bored or can't get the shot I picture.
I don't think I do good "examples" of them, I just do less tone mapping crazyness than most people.

Your example is mediocre, because the shot you wanted isn't really there in the first place. The shot I think you were going for needs an ND filter. (tell me how many shots went into it, and how long the middle exposure was and I can give you more advice)

IF I was you in the original, I would have set the aperture pretty much as small as it could go, used a slightly wider focal length, and taken the longest shutter speeds I could. (low ISO)
Probably would have gone for about 7 exposures, One So freaking long everything including the sea would have been just a fog.
Then when blending You could render the see as almost a mist while still having detail left in the sky. Waves look strange when they are all ghost like, so longer shutter speeds for rough water HDR's gives that flat fog look.

Anyway heres an HDR I did, nothing fancy, 5 shots, auto bracketed. Still looks a tad fake, but I saved the sky from being overblown (Which is why I did it in the first place)
Processed in Photomatix (Contrast smoothing high, strength was about 30% if i remember right)

Heres sorda what i mean.. (ignore the ridiculous sky, and the whacked out white balance) (Not my pic either)

Water looks good because it looks surreal.

simply because that photo is tilted like that, i shall not read any of what you just typed.

you're a good photographer, jeremo. quit wasting your time with hdr; the results aren't good, which is typical of HDR in general. either get a split nd filter or start exposing for highlights and "develop" for shadows in photoshop.

Thank dude! :D

yeah i really want to get a decent GND kit, it's annoting cause i know i absoultely need it for alot of things i like shooting... but i refuse to pay Australian prices for Cokin gear...

A holder + adapter = 70 Aus$... in China it costs about 12.... it's ridiculously over priced... so i'mo just gonna wait till i go back and not buy it here on princple.

I've redone the first shot, this time no HDR just frame blending, first one is sky from one shot and foreground with another with added rock detail from a third.

The second is just One for sky, another for foreground.

HDRs done like that is kinda lame.

Also realised that shit is DAAAAARK

why does it look much lighter in CS 2? damn calibration...

On a good note, went out tonight and shot a few with my gf. I'll post later, i'm quite happy with what i got.

You could get Kood parts if you don't want to pay for Cokin.

I don't mind paying for Cokin, but i do mind being charged a bullshit amount for it.

Kood and Cokin are interchangeable in their A and P systems. You can get the Kood holder and adaptors cheap and spend what you save on getting the filter to suit the holder from Cokin if you want.

how do i do hdr
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>97727

I'm off to China and Europe in Feb, i'll get Cokin holder systems there, it'll cost me 10 dollars. If i can afford it i'm gonna grab some Singh Ray filters, or just the Cokin ones.

I'm only after Graduated NDs. Got pretty much everything else i need.

>>98440

If you want to do it properly, get a tripod and take a photo and then increase and or decrease the shutter speed by each stop. A usual photo will have about 8-11 stops of Dyamic range... then it's all about digital blending.

To do it like i did in the op (ie shit and cartonny) use Photomatix and tonemap. I think it's also in CS 2
