As a follow up to my home made flash extension tube>>81018I am looking for a macro flash ring that can work as a slave device on a semi-compact. My Canon S2 IS has a pretty reasonable flash mode on it. OK not good enough for REALLY small things but OK for moderate stuff. I Googled about a bit but can only come up with the DigiSlave RF-50 which is $199 or more. A bit rich for someone who cannot even afford a decent DSLR right now. Does anyone know of any others? The only other thing I can think of is getting a cheap hotshoe slave adaptor and attaching it to a cheaper flash ring off Ebay.

Buy a filter adapter. Buy this:

Should come out cheaper.

Because macro shots are, by their very nature, taken extremely close to the lens.

Which means extremely limited DoF unless you have a really tiny aperture.

Which means extremely long exposures unless you have a shit-ton of light.

Hence, flash.
