dear i ask /p/ for advice....

i broke my F5 a small while ago and got insurance to replace it.
They are offering me a new F6 or a new D300.
the fact is i cannot decide what to get, i have a beautiful FA as my film camera and i'm very happy with my D70.

I love film, i tend to use my FA more than my D70, so perhaps i should go for the F6.
now the scary question, what would /p/ do?

(I have a film scanner, i dont care about price/time of film and i dont pray and spray with my D70).

get a d300 and sell it. seriously! i had a d70 and now i have a rebel and use it for all my digital crap work that i get paid for. my 35mm pentax k1000, leica, etc gives me everything i am truly happy with. if you're currently satisfied with both your film and digital cameras, just stick with the ones you have. i love film, digital at this time can't replicate the great quality that film has, and your d70 is all the instant gratification you need. srsly just get the d300 and ebay it for some cash (for a better lens?)

or you could also get a nice medium or large format camera.

If you sell it, I'll buy it !

I have all the lenses i want and the ones i desire are way out of my league. I'm not interested in selling the D300 because i dont need the cash for anything other than a new body.

its just want my insurance company is offering me, i will buy a 4x5 later on and its cheaper than a D300/F6

I guess i'll go for the F6 because i will replace my D70 oneday and i'll do it from my own cash, perhaps when the time comes the D300 will be cheaper or something else might tickle my fancy. The F6 wont date like a digital and its not going to be superseded any time soon. Considering the camera i'm replacing is the F5, the F6 seems logical.

F6. Every time. And I don't even shoot film (yet).

D300,

simply because it costs more and you can pick up a decent second hand F6 for around 800 US these days.

I'm just looking at it purely from an economic perspective. Get as much out of the insurance company as you can.

an F6 is more expensive than a D300 new (US$2000 Vs. US$1600 from B&H).
and i simply dont have US$800 to buy a secondhand F6 (nor i will be likely to do that either).

I used my F5 and FA more often than my D70 so i feel the F6 would be (insurance) money well spent.
(funny thing is the F5 only cost me US$500 second hand, i love insurance!)

if you like film more then go for the f6..
since i just changed to nikon i haven't go a film slr, i'm seriously thinking about getting the f5 or f6 to complement my d200

Get an F6, and enjoy.

You should send me the broken F5.

I think the real question is, how the fuck did you break an F5?
>> thefamilyman !!rTVzm2BgTOa
Well, i've chosen the F6, the insurance company says its with a 35mm f/2 lens, i'll try and get a MB-40 from them too.

Its uneconomical to repair.

you could say i dont baby my cameras, i like to get the best from them in any situation. Said that i do treat my D70 better than my F5. My F5 was a tank and survived like a tank but there are times when even the best meets its end. No other camera i've touched would of survived like my F5 would, i'm very happy with it.

Depends if you like carrying 3 metric tonnes?
the F5 is cheap and you get a LOT of camera for your money.
