Enjoy

Pretty good movie, but you'll learn more by looking at his photos than listening to him. Nachtwey doesn't talk much...
>> Anonymous
I don't understand how he's able to get quick action shots right as they happen.

Does he just use a narrow aperture?

About to watch. thanks!!

Holy crap...

Just watched the first 10 mins... how is he able to do that? wonder round un-chalanged?

The bit where he followed the craying woman though her old home.. no one says a thing..

If you act with complete confidence, so that you exude it, people will let you get away with the damndest things.

He addresses that later in the film.

Does someone have a subtitled version? My German is nowhere near capable of understanding the interviews with his Stern editors and the other German speakers in the film.

How do you force yourself into that state?

Even with Candid's i hesitate and worry...

Ive just started that 100 Strangers project... to try and build up my confidence, any pointers?

Just don't doubt yourself, or go read up on it. Behavioral scientists love to study this thing. Like people who stand up strait are seen as charge, if you slouch you come off passive. So always stand up strait in such a spot. Ever notice how a jock in class is all spread out and relaxed in a class and a geek is keeps of himself close? I'm not saying to sprawl out, but don't make yourself small. Just go find a study on it if you can't fake it without knowing what exactly to do.

Just finished watching it.... its fantastic!!

Looked up quite a few of his photos as well, I dont think any photos grabed me like his Famin set....

That was pretty damn inspiring...

I think we all learnt a very valuable lesson in watching this movie. Epic photogs use canon.

I firmly believe that anyone who is serious about photography should be required to have a copy of this on their shelf.

Was Nachtwey using the EF 35mm f/1.4L throughout that entire movie?
>> Anonymous
>>202808
Looked to be the 16-35/2.8L, which I've heard multiple places he uses as his main lens. I've also heard he uses the 50/1.4 a lot.
>> Anonymous
Does anyone have a version where the interviews in German are translated?

no duh correct exposure is god

It seemed as though he never once touched the zoom ring during the whole movie; therefore, I assumed it was a prime lens.
>> Anonymous
>>202822
Yeah, I noticed that too, but it really looked like the 16-35 when we got to see the whole thing, and I had read he uses it.

Guess he's just got good technique with it, that unsurprisingly he doesn't use the zoom to frame at all.

If that's the case, he might as well be using a prime.

>>202825
1. He might like the handling or look of the lens.
2. He might find it nice essentially having a 20, 24, 28, and 35 all in one package, and pick one for a scene, and work with it.

i seriously watched that entire movie. that was really good. fuck

Not remotely the same style of documentary or photographer, but awesome in terms of quality....check out "Arakimentari" about Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki. Soundtrack by DJ Krush, etc. A mainstay for me.

>Thanks Op, now half of /p/ is going to get a grenade tossed into the humvee they're riding in and partially lose their hearing trying to take photos in iraq.

Fix'd. Except unlike Nachtwey, who *kept fucking shooting* with shrapnel in him, etc., we'll just start kicking and screaming in pain.
