I just want /p/'s opinion.

The 40d kit just arrived, (Yay!) And now I've got to decide if I want to keep the 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 that it came with.

I was originally planning on selling it for $300-400 and putting that towards a 16-35/2.8L. I currently have the 50/1.8, a 11-16 F2.8 and a 70-200 f/4, so I would end up with pretty good coverage. However, after thinking about it, it might be a useful lens to have around. It has IS and Macro capability with pretty good optics.

Opinions?

he might be able to doop some retard on craigslist for it.. otherwise, good luck on that OP. that lens is really nothing special.

uh, the 28-135 IS retails for $400

he will have no problem selling it at $300

kit lens doesn't always mean 18-55 you idiots, the 5D kit lens is a 24-105 IS and costs $1,000 by itself

IS is great and every new lens ought to have it, but it's not essential.

Macro, reverse your 50/1.8 and there's your macro lens. It's almost certainly not a real macro, and even if it is, you'll get more use out of the 16-35, which besides being fast for a zoom and a great lens, is a pretty perfect focal length set on a crop.

The 16-35 on a 40D is silly. Why not get a 17-55?

I'm not a fan of both the 28-135's tight wide end and its shitty optics, not to mention its slow speed. I know a guy who loves his but he sucks.

Shoot for it a while carefully so you don't hurt its resale vaule before you decide whether to keep it or not. I'd rather have a 17-50/2.8 to fill out your range though.

You know you're scraping the bottom of the intelligence spectrum when even Ken Rockwell manages to beat you. Buy the gear that works best with your camera now, and then if it keeps taking good pictures fuck upgrading to FF.
