hey /p/ looking to upgrade i like the functions on the Evolt 420 but the d60 has nicer image quality. I shoot alot of outdoor and indoor in a surgical enviroment. Which do you think would be my best bet.

I know a guy who used to do this for a living, but I can't ask him now.

But neither of them would really cut it for you, I'm pretty sure. The Olympus has a very limited lens selection and a small finder, the D60's finder is too small to manually focus with and it won't autofocus with the lenses you need.

the oly probably does like3 frames per second so you could do that for a while?
or just dont shoot in RAW
the e420 and 25mm pancake might be good for that? i dont really know how close your getting
but it doesnt seem like all your shots would be so zoooooomed
and if anything you can crop

its really not that limited.
unless your comparing it to cannon with a billion shitty lenses and some with IS and some without it.
oly has good glass and it covers a good area. just needs more primes IMO

>25mm
>surgical setting

Lol no. Nikon made some special medical photography lenses a few years back; the shortest was 120mm. Looking around the Internet, the shortest kit lens I see for medical photography kits is 60mm on a 1.5x crop.

intresting, i would need something with a good zoom lense for the open cavity shots when i cant get to close to the subject however a standard lense 18-200 lense would work for the regular stuff

You need long, close-focusing lenses for this. Unless you want to be manually focusing a four-thirds SLR when non-repeatable moments in a surgery ("'scuse me, doc, but could you cut open the patient's skull again?") then you're limited to four macro lenses. Now, the Sigma 150mm would be pretty nice, if it is a good lens (I don't know), but then you've got the problem of flash and other equipment. I don't think the Four-Thirds system has the sort of specialized flash and close-up equipment needed for this sort of stuff. Do they even have a flash system? I don't see any on their website.

never use flash anyway what with all the surgical lights i never run into the problem

Scratch any 18-200; it's not a good lens. Too much distortion.

How close can you get to the table, OP?

I take this back. Olympus America does list flash equipment on their website, including the requisite ringflash. Four-Thirds site is what didn't mention anything.

about 6 inchs from the operating table itself depending on how sterile the surgery is

What 35mm equivalent focal length do you need?
>> Anonymous
[op] (sorry bout the long reply time internet deid for a bit.

As for 35mm equivalents i use beseler topcon super D and the 6-100 and 10 to 200 work just fine for the range that im working with

>>197852
wasnt talking about this just in general its really not that limited.
yea they do. they are fucking insanely expensive though.

well the pancake does look full of lols but i think it would be effective for my non work rekated stuff as well as a few good candid shots
