Beautiful pictures but work on your composition. The subject shouldn't be dead-center and neither should the horizon.

Maybe the intent was to avoid using the same old tactics for "good composition".

I do agree in the case of the first two pictures, but>>34078works perfectly well the way it is in my opinion. Although one does normally stay away from placing subjects in the dead center, mechanically applying the rule of thirds to everything isn't going to turn banality into something interesting. The rule is, imo, more of a delicate suggestion than anything hard and fast.

i dont really know much about the form/art/techniques to that pique human eyes, but it sounds interesting. i just happened to get 4 days off for xmas and flew 1.5 hours away to a nice island resort =b

how about this one?

so here's a summary. divide the image into 9 equal parts with two horizontal and two vertical lines. these are the thirds. Placing features on these lines (eg. a face, the horizon, etc) or at the intersections of these lines, can _possibly_ (ie. not all the time!!) improve the appearance of the image.

Give it a try!

34097: thanks for the advice, i always wondered what the 9 boxes setting on my camera was used for. i think its a fun game to make them all go green, but very hard. anyways, heres another pic from the airplane, sorry for the dirty glass window =(

somehow I instantly knew it was the Philippines. It's probably just that I only see sunsets like that in the Philippines and made a lucky assumption
