Greetings lurkers of /p/
I have an assignment, I ask of your help.
I have to shoot a fashion schools final assessment (READ: dresses) next Wednesday. I have two film lights on hire and 2 reflectors,Diffuser and silver/gold reflector. The lights are a lowel TOTA and a singe lowel PRO. Both lights have diffusion and reflector umbrellas. The camera I have is a 40D,I have the crappy EF-S kit lens (18-55) and a tamron (55-200).
There is a possibility that I purchase a 50mm 1.4 before the shoot. Backdrop is supplied.
So this is what I am asking, Around what settings shall I use?
The photos outlined to get is a photo of the student next to the dress on a manikin, The dress itself, and then possibly detail shots of intricate detail.
I was thinking, if I buy the prime by then, Use that the wholetime, f11 for sharp detail. But I want your opinion
TL;DR
2 studio lights, 40D + 18-55 + 55+200 + 50mm1.4
What settings do I use, what do I need before I walk in there

First of all.. what did you have in mind?
Also, show us some of your work. We can't really suggest things you can't do.
I am willing to help out though.

I'm thinking a unaltered light from the left, strong
Secondary light, diffused via umbrella at 45 degrees off straight to fill in shadows, shoot 50 1.4 at f11 @ iso 400

Why don't you buy a Tamron 17-50 2.8 instead the 50 1.4?

drew you a diagram
depending on the room\studio your in, you may want to use the other light (backlight in the diag.) to light the subject from the other side.
If you do that, make sure one of the strobes is slightly more powerful than the other, otherwise the subjects will appear flat and horrible.

Camera settings will be around:
ISO 100(/200)
S.S 125-250th
Apt. Whatever your camera meter says.
I have no idea what power setting you'll want to put the strobes on, never used lowel before. If you have a light meter, just use that.
