it's a widely known fact that cameras without a top LCD display are useless.

I have 2x Sandisk Extreme 2 4gb cards.

They perform really well, and are nice and reliable.

Worth every cent I paid for them!

I think he means that when you are taking photos you don't want the colour LCD panel to be on all the time, you want to be able to look at the low energy usage black and white LCD panel on the top to work out what settings the camera is set on, and easily and quickly change them.
Thus the cameras without the small LCD panels are a lot less versatile as the ones that do have them.

Display in the viewfinder > display on top of the camera. I prefer a couple useful buttons I can push with my index finger in place of the top LCD.

How does one take pictures without the top LCD display?

uh... aim and press shutter release?

I never understood the point of the top LCD. I either hold my camera at eye level or somewhere in chest area pointing down while setting. It's not like a P&S with liveview where a rotating screen can help with strange perspectives.

dSLR's without a top LCD display are POINT AND SHOOTS?!

Man, the top LCD display on top is so nice, especially the meter there. I can adjust my exposure without bringing the whole camera to my eye. Very very nice.

It's a leftover from the film SLRs where that was the only place with room for a screen.

extremely fast shutter speed has nothing to do with what memory card you need :)

Do you always have your camera up to your eye?

It's not useful for all shooting styles, but for people who shoot over extended periods of time and in certain ways, being able to see what all of your settings are with a quick glance is useful.
