Photographing Bullets Anonymous
Hello -
I was wondering: Is it possible to photograph a bullet flying out of an airsoft gun with consumer grade equipment, or do you have to use professional, high speed cameras?

Blurry streaks are blurry =[

High speed camera's required, though a good time machine might help.

High speed cameras are not required actually. All you need is a camera capable of bulb exposure, a flash that can be manually fired, and a dark room. Instead of using the camera's shutter to control exposure speed, use the flash duration. Most cheap off-camera flashes are capable of 1/100,000 of a second and shorter exposures. Use google if you need more specifics.

Actually, the photo you posted was most likely made that way.

1. tripod
2. bulb time
3. flash set on shortest time
4. total darkness
5. remote release sync'd with the gun
6. ???????

For some reason I doubt you. 1/8000 is fastest shutter speed I've ever seen in any professional camera. Or did you mean 1/100? That comma confuses me.

he's talking about flash duration not shutter speed.

has got it. the same technique is fun for painting with your flash (or whatever), too.
