I haven't read it yet but "understanding exposure" is apparently a good book for learning the basics.

Its been in print for the best of 30 years(?), which sums up how useful it is.

Been lurking for half a year. Haven't pickup up much. Seen a lot of fight over gear and brands. A lot of pictures looking like CGI. :S etc.

Ignore this person, seriously. Also ignore anyone with a name, they're all terrible.

Been lurking for quite a while, around a year-ish, and you do learn a lot more about photography than most amateurs. You learn more opinions, and what's viewed as good/bad photography-from the eyes of the photographer. Can proudly say I use my primes much more now - I don't have to have a tripod anymore~!

OP here.
I also have a problem with editing pictures on a PC. Even when i just have to crop it, i rage at it. :S I know one guy who are what i would call a good photographer. Maybe i ask him for a favour. I just want to take some pictures that look "real" nothing more.

I'm down with your ethos. I use CaptureNX to get WB and exposure where I wanted it to be. Not sure what the equivalent for Canon is?
>> Anonymous
>>271038

I've been trying a program that "autotune" the pictures a bit. It's called DxO Optics Pro. http://www.dxo.com/ (most people here prob laugh at it) some of the photos look better after processing though, but not all. I'm kind of lost. Hate to learn all that software stuff. :S

sounds like you're on the right track. for SUPER simple edits, try Irfanview which is free. It's the first (and often the last) step in all my digital shots, once the RAWs have been cooked.

Gonna check it out.

let me know how you find it. you can use PS filters and plugins in it as well, but it has almost everything you'll need in the optional plugin pack
>> Anonymous
Hmm. It's a keeper that for sure. Really easy to use for simple edit jobs!

Yeah, I got most of the ebooks from googling and recursive wgets.

http://rapidshare.com/files/152216426/Sulonen.Petteri.rar.html
Entire folder, quite small ones and distributed under CC license so should exist on the net somewhere as well.
