/p/, look what I bought today. (It came with a xbox huge russian 35/2 which I'm not too keen on, so I quickly put my 40/2 on it)

Why does everyone chase after FM/FEs anyway? This thing seems to do everything except spot metering, it's feather light and costs 4 times less.

how can something cost four times less?

four times less than a decent FM or FE

So they're paying you three times the cost of an FE to take the FG? If the cost of an FE is x, and four times the cost of an FE is 4x, and your FG costs 4x less, you've got 1x-4x for your cost...

Unless of course you mean 1/4 the cost of an FE...

They're better.

the fg is a great student camera. the fe2 has a bunch of semi-pro features that ratchet up the price, but make it an undeniably superior camera.

"Four times less" is commonly understood to mean "1/4th".

Realize that I am a *breathtakingly* pedantic asshole and I think your quibble on this point makes you sound like a tool.

FM's are excellent cameras, very reliable. FE's even have TTL metering.

I really wouldnt know what I could ask more of a mechanical film camera thats not an F2/F3

i was going to, but i got lazy. off the top of my head (for the fe2, a camera that i consider superior to the fm2 in all respects):

quartz-controlled shutter speeds range from 1/4000 out to several minutes.

1/250s flash sync

dof preview (fg might have this)

multiple exposure

titanium shutter (lighter, stronger)

better overall construction.

better viewfinder? i dunno, haven't looked through an fg in a few years

thx. Now I know I made the right choice because I don't really need any of that except maybe the better construction part.

FM's have TTL metering as well. All the FE series adds is aperture priority exposure.

>>146700
None of the cameras you've listed have spot metering anyways (it's supposed to be the FM2's fatal flaw that holds it back from the title of greatest camera ever) so you're missing out on nothing.

well, that, and the viewfinder. and it's not as robust as the F3. and by this point in time, i doubt all of the shutter speeds are as accurate as they should be.
