Dusty Sensor? Anonymous
All the dust on my sensor is driving me crazy. So I ask /p how does I clean my sensor? If you expect it to be too risky how much would it cost to have a shop do it?

I got the same problem. Didn't want to mess with it myself so found a camera place near my house that's gonna do it for $28 (I have a D40, I think it differs slightly depending on what you have). I figure it's worth it.

a) Put camera in sensor cleaning mode and blow air on the sensor with a blower bulb (do not use compressed air) while holding the camera facing down.
b) If (a) fails, you've got 2 options: use a sensor cleaning kit if you're feeling lucky, or take the camera to a camera shop or service centre to be cleaned professionally. I recommend the second option.

ok, thanks alot. I already tried to blow off the dust and it didn't work. So i'll just take it to a shop.

I did not try this myself, but from other /p/ members I heard that this works wonders.

You could also do it in shower room.. like first kill most of the dust flying around by sparying water around.

Then suck the dust away from the camera with a vacuum clearner... some 1x1 pipe should be enough :) If that doesn't get the crap moving, then .. well :P The dust might be also in between the sensor & infrared filter, which is pretty nasty since you can't clean it yourself.

You could also use bigger aperture, smaller apertures like F14, F22 etc show the dust a lot easier.
