Hey /p/ I am going to buy my very first DLSR this christmas or much earlier but I am having a hard time choosing between the 450D and the 40D. I know its always not about the megapixel count but quality.

So what does /p/ think? 40D or 450D and what lens would you recommend I also buy (I like taking pictures of people and candids)
>> Anonymous
I've never managed to get close enough to a candid to shoot one. Timid buggers they are.

Dear Anonymous,

I care not about the fact that you are buying a new dslr nor do I about you, but I will offer this small piece of advice. Try both of them and see which you are more comfortable with. Don't let /p/ decide for you. After you have done this.... buy a 450D w/18-200IS.

Don't come back to /p/ until you have taken 200 shots with your camera and have something to show us.

love,

the 40d is a better camera all around. for the price they are now it shouldn't even be a question for people anymore. 40d all the way; you won't be disappointed

40D, really I used both camera's predecessors, and assuming the similarities the 40D is not only a better camera, but considerably more easy to use and more comfortable to hold.

Check out www.dpreview.com Theres lots of info there.
I have a Canon 40D, and I love it!

The 40D is certainly higher quality. If the price difference isn't an issue for you, go for that. The 450D's only real advantage is smaller size/weight, but that comes at the cost of ease of control.

40D because when you eventually upgrade (had you purchased a rebel) all your SD cards will be useless. Also, the 40D can focus faster and more accurately in lower light settings than the 40D. The 40D also isn't cheap plastic and will take a good beating. better attery, too.

I suggest: Canon 40D + Tamron 17-50 f2.8 + Sandisk extIII 4gb CF card

40D. The ease of use and speed rule.
