>>135247 The low-end Nikons (d40, d40x, d60) don't have an autofocus motor built into the camera body. Since, before the D40, Nikon made most of its lenses such that they would autofocus driven by a motor in the body, this means that a lot of Nikon lenses won't autofocus on those cameras.
(No Canons have a focus motor in the body, but *all* Canon lenses have a focus motor in the lens, so it's not an issue)
