you invest in a dslr.

i think the composition is great. I particularly like the expression on the subject's face and the texture/color of his clothing. I would have cropped out the guy on the left to improve the composition. but the quality of the picture is pretty poor.

Everything from the graininess, lack of detail, over-exposure, to poor control of dof for an active shot are all attributed to the limitations of your p&s.

was this taken in a poorly lit situation?

Nope, outdoor. The guy is there because the subject of the competition I entered this in was 'Panning.'

Great shot. I would've taken a step back and re-framed so as to fit the guy's elbow it- it getting cut off like that is distracting. Otherwise, great work.

STFU. The technical qualities of this photograph are fine. There isn't much noise at all, it doesn't need microscopic detail, it's not overexposed, and the depth of field seems perfect to me.

And have you ever considered that he might not have gotten this shot with a DSLR, because the shutter would've been too damn loud? There are times when a tiny leaf-shuttered point and shoot is the best option, or at the very least the best option before a $5000 M8.

This is why we can't have nice things. And why having EXIF sometimes sucks.

I think it's obvious OP photo is non SLR, you can tell by the overall image quality and general uglyness and smearing of colors.
However at the same time I can agree with you, the photo is fine.. and p/s cameras are also much more discreet.
OP, nice snapshot!

Thanks. I couldn't really reframe it since I was shooting burst at 7FPS and panning with the guy walking.
I agree, a P&S is also much more compact, meaning I can whip it out quickly without fear of damaging the lens when I see a great shot.

I think the guy was kind of freaked out seeing a 14-year old taking pictures of him, so a DSLR would've been freakier.
