It looks like an armed conflict between a militia and photographers. I can already tell who's going to lose.

Precisely. The old maxim is that history is written is by the victors, but the truth is that the ones who write the history are the victors. The relative life and death of militiamen, photographers, nations, etc. is unimportant over the vast plain of history. Ideas shape man's actions far more than guns or government, and there is nothing better to spread an idea than a marytr with a story to tell, or in this case, a roll of film to show.

In the first century, some random revolutionist was executed in Jerusalem by the Romans. He was so unimportant to them they didn't even bother to take any real records, or at least none that survive to our time. On the other hand, his followers were fanatically- religiously- devoted to him, even believing that he was the avatar of a somewhat masochistic god. They wrote a bunch of stuff about him, which spread into the Roman empire proper, and eventually overtook the old Roman res divinia and contributed to the decline of the old Roman social order, and became the new major social order, which in turn produced marytrs that would later feed a cultural turning against it, beginning in the 18th century and really picking up steam in the 19th.
