How does it feel to hold a Leica in your arms?

Like holding a nicely-made rangefinder. It doesn't give off a POWER FIELD or something. If I had to compare it to anything, they feel quite a bit like a classic, well-made pistol, maybe a 1911. They have a sorta similar feel of quality and the finish is very reminiscent of a blued gun finish.

It feels like I'm missing something in my wallet.

If it's in your arms you're doing it wrong. I think most people tend to hold cameras in their hands.

So far out of the Leicas I've held (my IIIc, Ms in stores), I can't say they feel that special. The most distinctive thing is the round shape, which you don't get much. The HOLY FUCK IT'S A LEICA moment is when you look through the finder and shit bricks.

The great thing about a Leica isn't making photographs, it's showing everyone online that I own one.

Many older film SLRs have rounded edges like that. And the new Bessa-R is widely accepted to have a finder as good or better than _any_ of the Leicas.

I'd like an M4 because it's a pretty camera, but as far as avoiding the Leicafaggotry and still taking good pictures with an awesome camera, a Bessa R2 would be epic.

I got a Bessa R2m, only complaint i got is it getting dust particles in the viewfinder (don't appear when I look trough it) ( is it normal?)

The Bessa R finders are indeed great (at least judging from the ones I've looked at in camera shops) and they seem to be really good cameras, but there were some shutter reliability issues particularly in the new ones. They also have a much more limited frameline selection that is not automatic.

I don't think they're quite on par with Leica, particularly the better Leicas like the M3, M2, M4-P, and MP. Nevertheless I'm thinking about getting one to supplement or possibly replace my M3 because I'd really like to have a built in meter and they're so cheap. I'm happy with my Voigtlander lenses, so I'd like to give the cameras a shot.

I can't think of a single film SLR that has similar ergonomics to a Leica M.

I dunno about similarity to the M series, but early Zenits are basically Leicas II/III with a mirror box instead of a rangefinder.

I dunno I can't think of any apart from the Russian ones mentioned that are as curvy. Nikon FG maybe? Not really.

I own an RD-1s, and yeah the 1.0x finder is great but still every time I look through the finder of an M a line of saliva trickles out of the side of my mouth.

I really wanted to like Leica's. They have excellent build quality, excellent lenses. My first experience was with a screw mount. I absolutely hated it. I thought these things have got to be better than this. I tried an M6.

Sorry those cameras are just not for me. I've seen magnificent stuff shot with them. I just hate using them and wouldn't own one if you paid me.

Supposedly the OM-x SLRs are the most appealing to Leicafags and RF users in general.

I have an OM-1 as well and yeah it's pretty cool. It's still not quite the same though.

I use rangefinders a lot of the time and yeah I do have an OM-2n. Although I don't own a Leica, I've got two Ikons, a Bessa and an assortment Kodak Retinas. If i was made of money and needed to use digital then I would probably shell out for an M8 just because I already have the glass for it.

I use to go to the photography shop with my Bessa R hanging from my neck and ask the guy if I can handle and test the M4 they have exposed.
It would be a common buyer's behaviour except from the fact I do it almost every day. The thing will finish with they calling the police or me buying the M4.
