Hello there /p/.
I am a first time poster on this here board, so please go easy on me. I'm kind of interested in taking up photography as a hobby. However, I do not know what kind of camera I should go for. I was wondering where the best place to buy cameras is and what's a good, relatively cheap camera? Thanks.

Film or digital?

Define cheap, as in price range.

That's the thing, I don't really know where to go as far as photography goes. I just wanted to know what's out there, so I have a general idea of what to look for.

Getting into photography means you are going to have to do some research on various topics. Likely good starting points are various photography forums. Lurk and learn. Don't believe all the hype: gear threads tend to attract flaming fanbois.

Basicly you've got Digital and Film, SLR and P&S to choose from.

One option could be getting a decent but affordable P&S with manual controls, play with it and learn, then get a SLR and designate the P&S as your carry-around backup snapper.
