Crappy digital image from wal-mart, taken with an old Nikolta 35mm... advice?

Also, if I wanted to to long exposure shots with a digital camera, which ones should I look at?
>> Anonymous
you need to flat field that image and it will be fine
not too many lenses provide even illumination of the whole frame at the wide apertures you want to use to gather the most light with.
also avoid light polution and is dat sum perseid?

how'd they ever let you take a demo camera outside?

OH HAI GUISE! Us islamist extremists wanna say hello and FUCK YO MAMMY.

Some folks from Ebaumsworld we thing (... can't fathom how 4chan could be involved) are currently raiding our forums. There is entirely too much bandidth not being scarfed down, and entirely too few shock pictures being downloaded onto our forums. In fact, we're operating at full and complete capacity.

I know you western pigs can do a better job at attacking us than this... there have been hardly ANY epic lulz, and I know it's what the folks at Ebaumsworld, where you are ALL FROM, are after... isn't it?

in before personal army.

PS we're over at http://islam.trivuz.com/forums/index.php

For astrophotography stick with film, But if you really want a digital, Buy a DSLR, the P&S's have an absurd amount of noise for long exposures.

Also is that really a meteor? Judging by the wide angle view, and the length of the exposure, it would have to be ridiculously bright, and you would have to be ridiculously lucky to have it so centered.. I've got a few extremely bright satelites I could almost pass off as meteors. But that would have to be a ridiculously slow satelite aswell..

Pic related.

yeah, but look at OP's background
his is a shorter exposure and is brighter than yours
he was gathering more light in a shorter period of time and avoiding reciprocity law failure by doing so. that meteor is only on the focal plane as long as it is in the sky & that is why aperture is paramount and your f/4 is insufficient...on the other hand right through cygnus' heart is pretty cool...but at 15mm f/4 your camera is gathering only 25% of the light your eye could...

Ahh cool, I hadn't heard of reciprocity law failure before (Looked it up)

I took a ton of shots with F1.8 and even f1.4 lenses, BUT missed all the meteors with those... (During the Perseid meteor shower)

I would love to have an equitorial mount for my tripod So I can stack photo's, and use my longer focal length lenses, BUT I can't find one for a decent price (Aka under 200$) Even without a motor!

On the other hand I haven't tested my IR Modified D70 for night shots. So I should really get out one of these nights!

you're just gonna have to pony up the dough, and you need one with a motor.

but that's only if you want to get into astrophotography. otherwise, star trails are fine.

I hate to ask Q's like this, but the googles have failed me for a while now.

Could I just buy an EQ2 mount and a motor, and then throw it on a tripod + mount a typical Camera? (1/4" screw).
Also, Single axis? or would I need dual axis?

Its a pain to find anything online, Because they all seem to assume you know what all the acronyms mean, and its usually aimed at people with Mounts already.

OP here

this was a perseid meteor, I got ridiculously lucky (and I was up all night taking various exposures)

3 rolls of film and only two adequate shots.

thats not luck, thats the law of averages

any decent low end DSLR *the 350 or 400D for canon, the d80 for nikon* will do you just fine.

don't get the nikon d40x. It's fucking retarded.
