Hi /p/.

Just bought a FUJI 6500FD (Digital SLR). I've never owned a camera before, but I needed one because I'm going abroad for a year and want to be able to document my trip with nice pictures. I glanced briefly at the manual, but I figured a camera is a camera, right? Went to my garden, pointed, then clicked. What do you think?

yep that's definitely a camera.
a camera is a camera, but 6500fd is not a DSLR.
that s what I got too.
I think it s a decent camera, did only 300 shots for now with mine, and always in M mode.
it should be enough to cover your trip log, maybe too big for that function.
by the way I suck at photos.

NOT a DSLR? I was advised by someone who knows more than me to buy it because it was (and performance-wise it holds its own).

well I m not sure because I use french terms but
6500Fd is a SLR like.
terms are :
DSLR : Reflex
SLR like : bridge
Point and shoot : compact

That is not a digital SLR. It's an "SLR-like" or "superzoom". High end of the low end, but not an SLR.

That is not a RAW file. That's just a full resolution JPEG.

The person who knows more than you doesn't know that much.

um, the difference between an SLR and a DSLR is that one is not digital

you're real fucking confused in your terminology there, pal

No he's not. Well, no more than one would expect given the translation issues. He was talking about "DSLR"s and "SLR like"s. The 'like' is significant.
