Tips: Go to the New York side and find a Mighty Taco (closest one to the falls is at the intersection of Military and 182, right off of the 190). Get yourself a large Roastito with hot sauce and sour cream. You'll be glad you did.

honestly, this was good advice. i went to a T.G.I.Fridays and spent 35 bucks on fettucini. most expensive meal ever and definately not worth it

Yeah, a Roastito's like $4. And more delicious by far than anything you can get at T.G.I. Fridays.

As for taking pictures at the falls, meh. It's incredibly difficult to get an original picture of the falls since so many people have done it. I mostly take pictures of the tourists when I'm down there.

I'm guessing this was shot from the Skylon?

i took it from my hotel room. i was stayin at the embassy suites. as far as original shots go, i wasn't really going for that, just i'm still getting the hang of my dSLR and hoping maybe for some pointers, if i'm missing any obvious no-nos.

i'm still shootin with the kit lens too so any suggestions as to essential lenses is fair game also

Essential lens: EF 50mm f/1.8 II. Every Canon EOS owner should have one of these. It's a moderate telephoto on your XT (slightly shy of the telephoto end of your kit lens) but much, much faster. If you have a bit more money, I'd also recommend the 35mm f/2.0 (or, even better but even more expensive, the 28mm f/1.8).

All of my shots are taken with the kit lens, the 50/1.8, the 35/2.0, or the 80-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II (which I scored for $45 at a flea market).

Attached is a shot I took last time I was down at the falls with my 80-200.
