sigma 105mm f2.8

and, for when i need more, i use a canon 50mm f1.4 reverse mounted, to the end of the 105mm.

Super-Takumar 100mm or 50mm depending on how I'm feeling, sometimes with up to 60mm of extension tubes, and if I'm feeling really ambitious I'll stick a 2x close-up adapter (magnifying glass basically) on the front.

I have no way of reverse-mounting things but that would be neat too.

Sometimes.

If I want serious macro, I use my 18-55 IS with a reversing ring.

expensive :(

wow, what a rip. no, reversing rings usually cost like, thirty bucks and are basically just metal rings with 52mm (or whatever) threads on one side and bayonet mount on the other. you just thread your lens onto it using the filter thread and mount the lens.

believe it or not, most basic point and shoot Nikons have had outstanding macro for years. I used a Coolpix 2100 for a couple years to get alot of good macros, although the quality of the picture was definitely lacking in comparison to an SLR.

1 of 2 to show what I mean

You call that amazing? Man. You can draw a picture of a fly sharper than that ... with a crayon!

eh, for a cheapy point and shoot, it's not all that grim.

You can get way better macro shots than that with a p&s. It's all about the guy behind the camera that ruins the shot :)

adding diffusers to the mt-24ex, helps a lot.

you should find this interesting:

I find it interesting you use a full frame, I thought most people stuck with cropped bodys because thne you get a bit of free extra focal length.

I use my Canon PowerShot A550 and a salvaged front element of a lens from some camcorder.

Unfortunately, I get tiny thin DOF and the only way to focus is to move the camera closer or farther from the subject.

>you get a bit of free extra focal length.
Exact same effect as cropping an image. I wouldn't exchange my wider focal lengths for further tele. I'd definitely rather shoot full frame if I can afford it.

I am using diffusers and as seen on the picture my light is nice and even with no harsh shadows whatsoever. I've been reading for dalantech's stuff alot and he sure is one of the best i know.

Thanks for the letdown though. I thought i had nice light, but seems like it's not the case.

>>252428
You don't really get a advantage from using a crap(crop) body. You get the equivalent of a bigger magnification, but that's it. You don't really get any bigger magnifications though even if the fov is smaller. It's called cheating if you do claim so, hehe. I bought the 5D to replace my former 40D because a full frame sensor behaves better with diffraction than a crop and also because i use the camera for everything else than photomacrography. The 5D naturally has a better viewfinder too.

it's hard to tell, because i don't know what size/distance, you're working with. i was just judging by the catch-light in the eyes, and the shadows of the legs. which isn't much to go by. it looks like you have your flash heads too far away. they should be as close as they possibly can.

notice the size of the catch-light in these photos, and compare it to yours:

I'm using the same exact diffusers he is and the flash heads are also set to the exactly same position. I seem to be unable to upload any images without it fucking up, so just take a look at my spider macro's here if you're interested:

I don't really get what you mean here, your post seems a bit contradictory. If you are using a crop sensor with the same pixel density as the full frame equivalent then all your get is an image crop. However if the pixel density is higher then you can view at the same DPI for enhanced magnification over a full frame. Im not saying its crop is better, just trying to get the reasons straight :D

As for viewfinder, shit yeah, and bigger pixels would be less subsceptable to camera shake as well, 'cause it would have to go furthur to move onto a bordering pixel.

Shitsux for macro where I live at the moment, all the insects are waiting till it gets warmer, so all I can find is their remains :/

not a true macro (i think my 18-55 focuses to like, 1:2 at best). but it's a fucking bug photo! and i never take fucking bug photos!

makes me wish i had brought my 55 micro, though.
