canon 40d purchase in ny Anonymous
Im thinking of taking a trip to the US, new york to buy a Canon 40d with the 17-55 canon lens. Here in denmark its about 1000$ more to pay for the same duo.. You know places who have good price on this duo in NY?

If you order online and get it shipped you have to fill up the gap with the taxes so it becomes the same price anyway..

B&H Photo and Video. Huge and great camera store in New York.

And you what's the kicker? IIRC, they ship to Canada. Not saying not to go to New York- travel is always good- but if your only reason for the trip is to buy the 40D, skip out.

(And Amazon's not the greatest place to buy anything, anyway. It's basically an online mall/big box department store, and suffers from the same problems.)

I'm an idiot and missed the "Denmark" part and assumed Canada, because it's close to New York. But I think they ship to Denmark, too.

You're going to make a trans-atlantic flight to buy a camera?

Wont the flight cost...twice as much as the camera at LEAST?

Thats where youre wrong.
1. The camera itself IS alot less expensive.
2. Some say that you have to pay double tax. one for the us, and one for the country youre shipping to. That is wrong.
3. You can just get the store to giftwrap the camera, and sent it as a gift. That way there is no tax.

Bhphotovideo does this if you ask them to. I actually think they do it even if you dont ask, when the shipping goes to rich ass high-tax scandinavian contries.

okey.. I work at the airport so I get flights almost for free, just have to pay the tax.

Then I've checked out that gift thing.. that don't apply, you still have to pay the tax and all that extra.

And the thing is now that I have to be in NY for a night and the cost to sleep, to and from the airport and other expenses .. it makes it even at last.

But now my question is, what about japan? I saw it on a jp site that it costs around 100k yen, what do you know about shipping from japan?

Thanks for all the help!

the best option then is to buy it here, pay the extra and force out a smile? =)

A friend told me that Canon may ship new version of their 40d this fall.. have any of you heard rumors like that?
