Newbie Camera Anonymous
Hello /p!
I'm a new hobbyist on the photography scene; Trying to decide what to purchase. I really enjoy the macro fucntion, and would like it to not be utter shit.

Though, I'd also like it to be inexpensive. So, lets say under $500?

Gurus, any ideas?

Canon A710IS, A640, Or anything with A in front of it, usually has a good macro feature.

I like the A710 IS because it has a decent sensor size and Image stabilization. Its also quite cheap!

The Panasonic FX- series has really good macro and a fantastic lens.

The Canon S3IS and S5IS are reasonably good for P&S cameras, and they have a 0cm macro mode.

On the other hand, if you want to take good quality pictures of subjects other than macros, you can get a digital SLR for under $500. The kit lens that'll come with it won't do macros worth a damn, but you can eventually get yourself a real honest-to-God macro lens that'll blow the macro mode on a P&S out of the water.

OP here, so- Maybe it'd be smarter to just spend a bit more money on an Digi-SLR, and invest in the more technical stuff? :P
