Volunteered to go shoot some for my friend at a show he did last night. Lighting was hell. One light was broken, one white, one red, one orange. First time I've ever tried to shoot a show too, so I was winging it. My flash ran out of batteries since I forgot to charge them, and my sister had taken my extra set.

try focusing your pictures that might help
>> Anonymous
>>80738
ever try focusing in crappy lighting, with people constantly moving, with a wide aperture? its a lot harder to get tack sharp images than you might think.

>>80740
has clearly never done any sort of difficult photography ever, and has never heard of the term "acceptable focus."

Sorry, I clicked on the wrong post.

I meant to reply to>>80738. I'm on your side.

Sorry.

lol i was about to say. either you were a major asshole, or a troll. ill delete my previous post since its pointless now

Yeah,>>80743here. This is the sort of results I get when I've done concert photography, and I've shot concerts for friends at least six or seven times.

Like I was getting at, anyone who has shot in a situation that wasn't a studio or a pretty landscape in a "sunny sixteen" moment would consider these good results.

why is it that almost everyone in the Louisville area shoots Nikon?

>>80761
my dad owned a film nikon so i stayed with nikon so i could use his lenses :p
there was a girl there with one of the other bands that was shooting canon though!

i disagree

no one cares how shitty the conditions you were shooting under were, all they care about is the pics you brought back, which are out of focus, blurry, and noisy as hell. blaming lighting conditions alone is just saying you're not experienced enough / equipped to handle the situation you were in but you just don't want to admit it

Your sister swiped your extra batteries, did she?

Hehe. Hehehehehe. Heh. Hehehehehehehehehehe.

well, i think as long as the people i was shooting for are happy with the product. i didnt charge them even though they wanted to pay me, i now have more experience than i did going in, and they are happy with the pictures on top of that.

you gotta start somewhere experience wise, and this is it for me. maybe later ill get better gear to give better high iso performance too. i only think 1 picture that i posted is "noisy as hell" while the others are just "noisy" but meh, everybody has their own opinion on that.

i'll give you that, i've shot some events under questionable lighting conditions and come back with what i thought was pretty bad but people loved it anyways and you do have to start somewhere but i'd say don't feel like you can't do better either. personally after getting more experience under harsh lighting conditions my shots have gotten better and i've bought equipment more suited for the job as well

Yeah, live shows are not easy. I find I get better results without a flash than I do with, usually because I'm shooting in severely sleazy bars and drunk people get angry pretty quick.

As almost all of my work is done in clubs, i never use flash. It generally ruins the enviroment for everyone which sucks. (which is why i hate shitty p&s flashes). Get a fast lense, then get a faster one, dont be affraid of usign ISO800 and use the lighting as best you can.
