well if you didnt expect faggotry from /p/ then you clearly havent been lurking enough.

example:
just today a guy asked how to get started into photography and the essentially started a "discussion" on film V digital.
bad idea to start a "discussion" based solely on film V digital.

flash powder flashes, I think you'll find.

As for OP's question -

digital is fun to shoot
film is fun to shoot
digital is fun to process
film is fun to process
digital makes some amazing, mindblowing results
film makes some amazing, mindblowing results

Digital people who flame about film HAVE NOT SHOT ENOUGH FILM TO HAVE AN OPINION. Come back after doing some real darkroom stuff, shooting the legendary slide films (negative film is shit): ektachrome, velvia, provia, etc.

Film people who flame about digital HAVE NOT SHOT ENOUGH ON DIGITAL TO HAVE AN OPINION. Come back after becoming a wizard at post processing.

If you like photography, you won't care about the medium and you won't have a binary GOOD / NO GOOD opinion on film or digital

this man speaks the truth. people who flame one of both mediums are retards. people who don't know one of either are beginners.

I agree with everything in this comment except for one:
>negative film is shit
I'm a big fan of B&W print film. I spend a lot of time shooting Delta 3200 pushed to varying degrees.

I've never really found a color negative film that I like. Got any recommendations? Or were you just going for the joke?

My current bugbears:

I don't like that over grainy black and white that loses the detail that makes black and white attractive to me. There were old films that were grainy with the limitations of the technology back then, nowadays I see kids trying to be retro and cool so they make horrible grainy B&W that looks like shit to imitate old styles and the cheap and nasty film we had then. Urgh. Horrible to see that again after spending years hoping and waiting to see the technology improve. Same goes for all the rest of the overly pretentious retro film users (usually kids, rarely anyone over 30) who insist on making a point of saying it's film that got their picture when it really doesn't matter as it's just the results that matter whatever your method.

Leaving horrible borders on, grainy mush and so on are often used to pretend it's more "art" because they did it "the hard way" using film rather than the digital that they are being snobby with when the pictures themselves can be as boring and uninspiring as any other.

One thing I like(d) about slides is that it lasts well and the IQ on it is impressive.

Slides nowadays don't really have any longevity more than negatives, far as I know. Now Kodachrome, there was a slide film with some legs on it. But alas, the days of Kodachrome are not just numbered but actually well into the negative range at this point.

I've got five rolls of it in my fridge that I plan to shoot as soon as the greens of summer and those nice bright colors come back and make me think all the world's a summer's day.

Film has some advantages and some disadvantages compared to digital.

Digital has some advantages and some disadvantages compared to film.

Both are tools that require different skills and approach, and produce subtly different results; but can both produce stunning images.

well, yeah, cause negative film isn't crappy just cause it makes a negative image. negative color film is crappy cause it can't properly reproduce all colors and has terrible longevity (compared to chromogenic slide film, even)

Negative BW film, on the other hand, has amazing longevity and very high resolution
