Hey, /p/. Can you give me a hand? I'm looking for a cheap medium format lens. The wider the better. Although I want cheap, I would also like good quality obviously. I know nothing about medium format names/mounts/etc so I don't really know what to look for.

larger image circle gives me a little more room to play with. i may however, end up going with an old 35mm lens if i cant find a decent MF one.

If it doesn't matter the mount, the cheapest widest lens you can get is the 30mm Arsat fisheye. The Kiev 88 screw mount version will be cheapest, followed by the Pentacon 6 mount. Other versions tend to be much more expensive. Optical quality and quality control on this lens is usually pretty good.

If you need rectilinear, the cheapest widest is the 45mm Arsat. Again, the Kiev 88 screw mount is cheapest with Pentacon 6 being slightly more. The QC on this lens is terrible and optical quality ranges from decent to useless.

If you don't want to risk the QC issues with the 45mm Arsat, the next cheapest will probably be the 50mm Zeiss Jena Flektogon in Pentacon 6 mount. The older single coated version is cheapest. QC and optical quality are excellent but price is noticeably higher.
