I won't be buying this then. Canon has really gone to the dogs. :(

>>15.1 megapixel CMOS sensor
>>The EOS 50D is Canon's highest pixel count APS-C sensor to date. The manufacturer is claiming that new manufacturing processes, plus redesigned photo diodes and micro lenses, extend the light gathering capabilities of the sensor. They obviously feel confident as they've expanded the ISO sensitivity range to 12,800 (10-3200 standard range).

many wins will be had if they can pull through

stole these comments from Engadget, not that their users are camera experts but they are truth and it was lulz worthy to see them all get rated negative by canonfags

>> The D300 is around $1500 online these days, so price-wise its almost the same.

>> With the D300 you'll get better pro-autofocus (51-point AF and spot meter linked to the focusing point) compared to Canon (9-point AF with spot meter linked to only center point), 100% pentaprism, and 8fps (with MBD10 grip), but with the 50D you're getting 3 megapixels

>> Yeah, the 50D is pretty fucked up. They're just making the 40D even worse by throwing in a couple of new parts (crammed sensor and digic 4) and changing the label on the outside. Hopefully their 6D won't be the same - just a few more megapixels and useless features. At least nikon has a bubble level built into the D700 - that's useful. Squishing megapixels and providing "light balancing" crap that photoshop or a filter can do is a waste of time. They knew their 40D was bad, so they release a "replacement" 10 months later. Seems like they liked their 5D in comparison - no release for 3 or so years.

>> umm i have an xt and this is not what im looking for. I guess I'm really going to nikon next round. I need better AF,.better metering and better flash ( think CLS system).
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m
Seems like they're shooting themselves in the foot with how well 40Ds still sell. I'm not convinced til I see high iso shots.
Also, I got to play with a D700 and the 17-35 f/2.8. That is a DAMN fine combo, not quite enough reach on the lens for my tastes, but lol ISO 25600. Not exactly useable, but 1/2000 sec shots in a dimly lit camera shop. Really wish I could play with it more, might have to rent that one.
>> Anonymous
renting high end cameras is fucking retarded unless someone else pays for it

d3/5d/1ds all go for over $200 a day

might as well spend that money on other stuff
>> Anonymous
>>242922Seems like they're shooting themselves in the foot with how well 40Ds still sell. I'm not convinced til I see high iso shots.

the 40D can keep selling at under $1,000, like it is right now, if you don't want to pay the premium for the brand new 50D

then by the time the 40D are all out of stock, the 50D will be back at $1,200, where it belongs

i don't get all this LOL

people were complaining about 8 MP 3 years ago, now it would laughable to release a camera with that resolution

10 MP came around as the norm, then we've been seeing 12 and 14 MP APS-C sensors, still looks fine

this is just one more

get with the fucking times people

no one is complaining about the K20D with 14.6 MP and 6400

the 50D is 15 MP and 3200 as default, with 6400 and 12800 IF you desperately need them

i'm sure it will be fine within the default ranges
>> Anonymous
>>243052
Yes, but what if it was 7.5 megapixels, half that? Presumably twice the DR, half the noise, and a possible ISO 25,600 expansion.

40D has it. Get with the times.

--

My big worry is how Canon is likely upping the pixel count just because of idiots that look at that first. 15.1MP and ISO12800 on a crop sensor is going to be just like clicking "Add noise" in Photoshop. I guess we'll have to see some test shots though to know for sure.

BTW, I'm a proud 40D owner.
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
it seems to me you're all missing the auto-focus adjustment which is HOT

and if canon's new sensor is that awesome 15mp is going to be sexy for those of us who like 1.6 crop cameras but are frustrated by print sizes available to us.
>> Anonymous
looks like too little too late for Canon

this costs almost as much as the D300 with less features

then the D90 comes out with more features like GPS tagging and HD video recording for less money

good job Canon, you've shown you are quite the market leader

"Has anyone calculated how many megapixels a full frame body, using the 50D's 4.7µm pixels, would make?

Is there something magically wrong with your 40D now that there's something with that's a slight upgrade available over a month away? You don't need 15 fucking megapixels. You're better off sticking with the 40D and putting the money you saved towards the nifty fifty and a flash.

because they sell a whole lot more SD cards than CF?

and it's a more universal format, you can use SD in other stuff, mp3 players, small cameras, cell phones, gps units

it's just more convenient

too bad cameras like the 50d or d300 do not write faster than extreme iii, whatever speed that is

So UDMA support is a figment of my imagination?

>>243471
As long as advances in memory come to CF significantly in advance of SD, and there's no reason to belive that would change anytime soon, pro models will support CF.
>> Anonymous
>>243471
Pros and studios shooting with high speed cards and daisy chained firewire CF readers aren't about to replace that significant investment on a whim. Even amateurs wouldn't be thrilled to toss out $100 worth of decent cards for no reason.
>> Anonymous
>>243471

They invented these for a reason.
http://the-gadgeteer.com/review/eagletec_sd_to_cf_ii_card_adapter_review
>> Anonymous
>>243477So UDMA support is a figment of my imagination?

uh, okay here's an example so you can understand better

you've got your F1 car that does 360 km/h

take that engine and put it in your toyota camry, it's not going to magically go 360 km/h because it's limited by its chassis/aerodynamics/tires/take your pick

these cameras simply do not write faster than extreme iii

just because your card is UDMA does not make your camera write faster than what it's rated for
>> Anonymous
>>243507
The 50D's speed is specifically rated with UDMA cards, meaning it's ACTUALLY USING FULL UDMA SPEED. It even mentions that you lose a significant amount of your buffer using slower (read: Extreme III) cards.
>> Anonymous
no, just fucking no

with UDMA, you can write 30 more JPGs because they are small enough to not choke at the buffer and be written to the card faster than with slower cards

but regardless of UDMA or not, you can only write at 6.3 FPS and that is more than enough for extreme iii speeds
