sup /p/.

Not sure if this fits real well in /p/, but I can't be arsed to give a crap.

I'm thinking of buying myself a Nokia N95 8GB, because of the 5 mpx camera with Carl Zeiss-optics... Now I'm no professional photographer, I just want to be able to take pictures in everyday life without having to look like a photofag. Would this cameraphone work for amateur pictures, and still look nice?

buying a phone for the camera is for faggots.

i've got the N95 (not the 8gb version, but the original one)
the camera on it is great for a phone, simply the best i've used.
I feel its great for everyday use, as its your cellphone and a half decent camera as well.
Whats even better is that you can directly upload via your GPRS/UTMS connection or WiFi directly to flickr.
http://www.flickr.com/photos/thefamilyman/ this is my photos that was directly uploaded from my phone, ignore the content, its just everyday crap, but thats what i love about this phone.
I say go for it, there isn't really anything better combination out there.

Not being a frequent /p/tard, nor being very interested in cameras or the quality of pictures, I find your pictures to be surprisingly good. I'm impressed, and I'm looking forward to 600 euros well spent

Trust me. Cameras on phones are shit.

Buying a camera phone shows you up as a retard. Buy a phone because it is good at being a phone.

also realise that your "zeiss optics" will most likely be a piece of plastic made by some random chines company.

im sure the way it works is that nokia simply pays zeiss for a license to use its name solely because it is reknowned by photographer for being fine glass.
whether that stands after all this nokia and panasonic crap well see....

Tiny lens, tiny sensor and none of the specialised processing that you get in a DSLR. Of course it will not look good. That's why they still sell cameras. IT'S A PHONE YOU DOUCHBAG. NOT A CAMERA.

Buy a compact camera at the very least if you want decent photos.

Buy a bog standard phone then buy a half decent compact. It will do the job better and cheaper.

but then he won't fit in with the rest of the sheeple. That's the market camera-phones are made for, anyways, club-hopping trendy sheeple.

Only a certain variety of "sheeple" uses the word "sheeple."

I don't own a cell phone, but camera phones are convenient and some of them have good output for JPEG-only, small-sensor automatic cameras. They keep the megapixels down usually, which cuts back on noise, and though I know most other people don't like it, there's something about files I've seen from the iPhone I like... mostly the way it renders color.

You are an idiot and you know nothing about cameras or photography. The iPhone has a notoriously poor camera that was out of date before it shipped. It's nothing but a trendy fashion accessory gadget.

Go cry more you trend whore. You and your fuckwit friends have been sucked in by advertising and snake oil salesmen. At least have the balls to admit you and your friends are vapid and empty-headed then go masturbate to your fashion accessory.

lol you ppl take this way to seriously.
i have this phone, and when i dont want to lug my DSLR or even carry my Fuji F30 with me, this is a great alternative.
Its by no means a replacement for a p&s, but for those times when you just dont have your p&s with you, its a worthy tool.
you ppl can cry more about its image quality (or lack of) but its by far the best of any other phone. What more it doubles as a handy productive device! shock horror!
Its a phone foremost, a productive tool secondly and a camera thirdly, but a damn good one in perspective.
(i need a drink, its hot here)

I don't know much about camera phones (almost never use them) or care too much for that reason, but I have seen gadget reviews comment on the camera being below-par compared to the features and styling of the rest of the device. Other phones seem to pack in more features? A lot of arguments about the rest of the phone features too, mind. This is why I just buy a phone that works and gives me a signal. Way too much brand hate and love that I don't want to wade through. I'll have to go through all that shit again eventually though when I need a new one. Bah.

I've not much liked the camera phone images that I have seen over the years and consider many to be unsuitable horrid, but then as you said they are not for the same purpose as a DSLR or the like. Use them in another way and it might be acceptable for a purpose. Handy if you're out in the shops and want to ask someone if that was the item they wanted or if you want advice on what they thought of it. Things like that might work well enough.

I do wonder if mobile phones will ever has make pocket digis obsolete.

Right now they certainly don't... but i remember having the very first phone with an inbuilt camera...the Nokia Half-Brick 1000 about 5 years ago and camera phones these days have gone leaps and bounds...

This is encouraging of course, because the way i see, manufacturers may very well have to build P&S with better sensors as the mobile phone companies start catching up.

wow, I'm probably stuck in the past but fuck that is pretty good for a phone camera!
