Personally, I have the Nikkor, and I'm rather happy with it.

Nikkor

The nikkor is great, just make sure you test it out at ALL focal lengths to make sure you don't have a soft copy

What do you mean with "soft copy"?
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM

The one I had was soft beyond belief after about 100mm... almost like it wasn't in focus.

Just test it out.

test it at about f/8 from 100-200mm and if you don't get decent sharpness, don't buy it.
>> vince
my camera shop did tell that the sigma would be sharper compare to the nikkor. true ?
>> Anonymous
get the nikkor 80-200 f/2.8

or

if you have 1800 to blow, get the 70-200 f/2.8 VR

bollocks.

It depends on the individual lens. But chances are with Nikkor's QC, you'll fine more sharp Nikkors.

Maybe the OP doesn't want a 3 pound lens.

I like the Nikkor better, but get the Sigma if you aren't willing to spend all the money but still insist on having a super zoom.

The Nikkor is the dog's bollocks.

I find Sigmas too contrasty overall and they don't feel as well made.

Subjective, but it's an opinion. :)
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
Sigma vignettes a bit, and its 200mm isn't really 200mm (unless you are focusing at infiniti)

Get the Nikon if you can afford it, otherwise the Sigma 18-200 is quite decent. I used the non OS version for MX and skiing, and it serves me pretty well..

Don't shoot over 130mm wide open if you can help it though. pictures look bland...

I have a Nikon, distorts too much..but sometimes useful since it looks ultrawide when cropped.
