Look harder.

1st pic I love. Second pic boring as hell.
>> Anonymous
the first one is too left heavy.
the second... nice colors, but there's nothing interesting about the subject matter.

if it were cropped so that the sun was in the center and as a portrait ratio (instead of landscabe) then it would be perfect

Perfect? A square for a landscape? Lurk the fucking moar...

Hey it's a vast improvement. I'm here to learn about photography. I never claimed to be an expert.
I think it works. Maybe if it was more rectangular vertically it would have been fine. It's not even my photo, I'm not the OP. I just love sunset photos.

I agree its a whole lot better. the sun a bit more to the right would have been even better, but you can't do that in PP

I'm sorry but a square format for a landscape isn't an improvement. Square format is for black and white portrait, a landscape is supposed to be horizontal, panoramic if possible.

I just give my opinion, but try other things, a sunset is...stereotype. Try black and white to control the light, the perspective, the composition. At my opinion, color is useless in most of case. Get a cheap argentic reflex, black and white films and take a lot of photography.

Any time you find yourself saying something of the format "All [genre] photographs should be shot like [style]" then you have failed massively as an artist.

I talk as an artist. A square format close the perspective, it's static. A landscape is supposed to be free.

Now tell him it's bad because it doesn't rigidly adhere to the Rule of Thirds.
