Hi, /p/. I just have a question or two. I'm looking for a camera that can do effects like the one in the picture to the side. I think it has something to do with shutter speed, but I'm not exactly sure not being a whiz on cameras. What would be an affordable camera that can do effects like the one in the picture?EXIF data available. Any camera with manual controls can do that. Yes, it has to do with shutter speed, it's a long exposure of someone waving a light around a... trash bin?
>>62399Could you point out some good ones? I don't need a professional camera that costs a ton but want one for an aspiring photographer that can take pictures that actually aren't just family or other crap.
>>62404whats your price range?
>>62404My first camera was a powershot A-series, and it was very good for its class. You could go full manual on it. Either that or a canon s3 is are good bets.
>>62408OP hereFull manual means? Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't know much, if anything relevant, about cameras.
>>62425manual means you can control both the aperture and the shutter speed of the camera
is there a tutorial on how to take pics like this ?
>>62438its pretty simple if you have a grasp of basic photographic techniques; set stationary camera for slow shutter speed aimed at moving object with light
>>62438Yes, I have done some!http://adcuz.co.uk/how-to-articles/how-to-create-a-long-exposure-photo/andhttp://adcuz.co.uk/how-to-articles/how-to-light-painting/
thanks , what type of light do you recommend that i use ?
>>62610I've done these with flashlights, penlights...lots of things.I don't quite know how you'd get that neat ribbon-like one that went around the thing, though...
>>62645Take some kind of a handheld light with a fluorescent tube and run circles around the mailbox? I suppose it was done like that.
>>62647im pretty sure the light in the op image is a glowstick
your probally right , thanks /p/
>>62660I thought about glowstick too, but it probably wouldn't have had enough brightness. But who knows
>>62670It is a glowstick.
Wouldn't the user of said glow stick also be in the shot, heavily blurred?
>>63003Not if said user moves around enough. It might tint the image SLIGHTLY, but not significantly.
>>62408seconding a series. if i was going to buy another point and shoot i would get one of those. you can get some very cool effects including what the op is talking about with the manual mode.
>>62408Which camera, specifically, would you recommend? There are a lot of A series cameras. The s3 seems like a lot of money too.

can the d40 do these type of shots ?
>>63502Of course.
