hey /p/

i'm looking to get into photography. i've always been interested in it and i've been lurking on /p/ for a while now, getting jealous at all you talented folks with your kick ass pictures. My dad gave me his old finepix s5000 last week as he got a new camera. not the best camera in the world, but I thought that now I have a camera, i might as well get into it.

so, any tips, hints or tricks you guys use? what do i need to read up on? i heard composition is the most important thing, but there must be more to photography than that. all advice is welcome.

thanks in advance.

oh, and i didn't take this pic but i do really like it.

Learn the technicalities like what is aperture, ISO, shutter speed, etc. Then, when you're taking pictures, try to find a new way to see something. You see a lot of pictures taken by people standing straight up (that's insta-boring). Go for unique angles (it doesn't always work, but I think you get the idea).

Start there and then post here and get torn to shreds. Don't take it personally.
