I was wondering what camera I should by - I want to upgrade from my D40 to a camera with an AF-Motor.
I definitely wanna go Nikon again, the question is should I get a used D80 or a new D90? I mean, I would spend like 400€ (550$) for a D80 and bout 900€ (1200$) for a D90. Is the +650$ really worth what I get more? Or should I go for a different camera altogether? My limit is about 1000€ (1350$).

D80, D90 has no useful features worth shedding out for, then get another lense or a flash or something SB-600 or f/1.4 50mm

enjoy your out of focus pictures with that 50mm on a d40.

Get what you can afford.

You sir, are a jackass.

Get the D90, it has video, in case you may want to play around with it. Or unless you wanna got with a D80 with more lenses, does make sense, unless you need high-ISO for your work or hobby.

I prefer to shoot without a flash - is there a remarkable step forward in the high ISO-ratings (noise-wise)?

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day, but I was thinking of replacing it with a D100. I'm really cheap though, and I don't have a grand to spend, so it's a different situation for you.

Oh yes, very big difference in terms of noise control and image quality, some of the shots are even better than the D300 on ISO 3200 with the Doonanny. BUT, if you don't plan on printing poster sized prints, a D80 would suffice, just remember to shoot RAW, ISO 3200 on a D80 on RAW for me looks fine, reminds me of film grain, feels good, man.

Why get a used D80? You can get a brand new one for $600 at Wal-Mart.

You're right actually... Well I guess that makes my choice clear. See you in a few weeks (2-3) when I post my first new pics!
