I recently bought a Sony DSLR-A200, but I have some questions about it.

Why does my camera make horrible churning noises if I set it to a long exposure? It sounds like there is a hard-drive or something in it.

Also should I have got another brand of camera, or does it not really matter?

Doesn't really matter. Sony makes fine cameras.

I have no idea but my A100 does it too.

No, there is no difference in the brands for you.

It is a mystery.

Also what do you mean by "for you"?

I'm guessing she's talking about how there's a few specialized lenses some top-end pros need that Sony doesn't have. That's it.

yup.

There are 2 TS lenses avaible (new iirc) and THAT STF, the only thing thats really missing is a new 50/1.7(8) and fast long lenses since there is only 3 atmo.

That whirring noise you hear is supersteady shot. just turn it off when you're on a tripod, it doesn't help and might only make things worse.

Sony makes fine cameras and are going to have lots of new glass september at Photokina.

(Not OP)

Man, I wondered what that sound was.

I would imagine that is the case as well. Their stabilization moves the sensor around in-body, and if you're on a tripod, may be freaking itself out, much in the way in-lens IS does sometimes.
