/p/, Next week, I am going to take a trip to Colorado, but unfortunatly, my Canon Rebel went kaput a month ago. All I have is a Fujifilm S700 I was given by a friend. I don't have much experience with it, but I was just wondering if I should even bother taking it along. What are you thoughts / tips on the camera.

Picture related.

If you are good take it. If you are not good take it and practise. Unless you want to take low light shots one would think you could take most of the photos you would have taken with the rebel. Just familurise yourself with the controls and stop worrying so much about the hardware.

I'm fairly decent with a camera, but I was just wondering if the camera is any good. Since I can't use different lenses, I need tips on what I can/can't do with it. Any info on if it can take high ISO shots, panoramic, or good close ups would be appreciated.

you can, take pictures with it, isnt that the ultimate goal of photography? why wouldnt you take it?

for close ups its okay if you swich on macro mode.
it is shit in low light, even indoors without a flash is a no go unless its full daylight.
for sunsets the camera also fails, you probably need a natural gradiation filter or something.
it can stitch together pasable panoramas, as it has a fairly wide angle lens at minimal zoom,
the minimal focal distance of that camera always pissed me off.

Thats not an SLR. It's a typical point and shoot, and it's not made to the same standards as your rebel.

bring it along, but don't stretch the zoom much, since it's still mainly digital. Also, don't expect anything more than what any other point and shoot can give you.

i don't understand if thats the only camera you have why wouldn't you take it? and if you knew how to use your rebel i don't understand how you wouldn't know how to use this camera... the rebel is more complicated -_-;

I never said I didn't know how to use it. I know it's an entry level camera so that almost certainly means it's easy to use. I was merely wondering if the camera takes decent pictures, has any lighting issues, etc. Most of which have been answered already. I'm not taking any luggage, so this would be my only out-of-pocket carry-on. I have family and spare clothes out there, so that's why I wondered if it was worth taking along.

Wow, you fail at photography.

In all photographic situations, having a camera beats having no camera at all, regardless of how shitty the camera might be.

And any superzoom, while not nearly as good as an SLR, is still gonna be a pretty good camera.

why dont you just take the camera and shoot some test shots and see for yourself? you said you have the camera so why ask us?

OP needs validation.

Of course you should take it. Fuji's point and shoots are crap, but they're less crap than no camera at all.

Stay below ISO 400.

They do have the least noise, though. That's all I know about them: less noise in their point-and-shoot cameras than any other.
