New Nikon Anonymous
Has anyone heard of a new Nikon coming out? I don't mean the d40 or the d80, but something newer. I heard a new d50 still with 6.1 mp, but a magnesium alloy body. My source is sketchy though, and I mean really sketchy. It was some sales person on a phone. Can anyone verify this?

correct me if I'm wrong, but the d40 and d50 are OLD Nikon models. I mean, I recenly got a d50 simply because it costs about $500 less than a brand new digital single lens reflex camera; that's how outdated it is.

D40 is only a couple months old, It is just a slightly updated version of the D50 without a focus driving motor

And no theres nothing official yet, and the rumors are all speculative. The Fuji S5 is probably the next best thing it just came out BTW (that takes Nikon Lenses). Its not for the sports shooter, but for landscapes / portraits its going to be a hit, Also its minorly more expensive than the D200 so quite cheap for its niche market!

The Nikon D50 and D70s are not OUTDATED, they are merely superceded.

Canon has recently annouced the 1D Mark III... and the specs for that fuckin thing are awesome... 10MP, 10FPS, 19 Focus Areas, 3 inch LCD with LIVE PREVIEW!!!...

Nikon will announce something soon just to stir the pot a little... i hope so anyway.

The specs on that 1D Mark III sounds nigh ridiculous, yet so alluring.

If Nikon releases something that can compete with that, along with a reasonable price tag (almost equal to the Mark III) then I'd might want to take a look at it.

I'm actually really really happy that they stopped the bullshit Megapixel chase and kept it at 10... which is probably why they're able to get 10FPS... man another 5fps and it'd be like a video camera. hahaha.

There's that superbig photo trade show next week, historically it's when Nikon have released new stuff. So it's not impossible that there will be a new body then.

If there is to be one, it'll either be a new pro body (D3X/H) or a 10Mp version of the D40.

Hearing some rumbling about the 18-22mpx D3 range. So we might see it there. I'll have my megapixels (lulz!) over fps anytime.

Or maybe the option to go 10mpx and get 10fps at the same time. An option. I want options. No 10mpx limitation plz.

Took longer for the troll to be loosed than usual, you guys are getting slow.

What's worse than a troll is a Canon troll.

Nikon just needs to bring out a full framer already. And Viewfinder > live preview lcd in any situation.

that would be the shutter release

The rumors I've heard are that the D3X is going to have a 1.1x crop factor LCD. So, not quite full frame.

Also, there *are* situations where an LCD could be better than a viewfinder. Notably, shooting at weird angles--I'd rather be able to look at an LCD held at ground level than getting down on my belly and peering through the glass. Of course, Canon decided not to endow the Mk III with a tilt-swivel LCD like the a95 (and its progeny, the a6x0 series), so it's not nearly as useful as it could have been.

>>36579is almost right: Nikon have just announced the D40x at 10mp and there are strong rumours about a 18-20mp D3something to be released later on in the week.

Has a D40x actually been announced? Google only seems to turn up that a "reliable source" says it will be

Ken Rockwell's got a bit about it.

Also, I've heard *new* rumblin' that the D3 is going to be full-frame.

Well the rumors I've heard is that it is indeed full frame and none of that "1.1 crop bullshit". 18.7mpx.
