Hey /p/, how's my exposure? I don't own a standalone meter, and the battery in my camera was made in West Germany, so I have to guess. Am I doing okay, or do I fail it?

For some reason I have trouble exposing black and white correctly, although I use the same method to estimate as with color film.

For instance, this one was anomalously well exposed compared to the others on the roll. This is in spite of varying light conditions, which I took into account.

This one came out very differently from any other black and white photo I have ever taken.

Not bad. What film and camera?

Canon SureShot P&S, Fujicolor film from Walmart, actually.

Slightly overexposed. Otherwise, you seem to be spot on. Being able to estimate exposure is a really useful skill to have, and not hard to learn at all. Why do you think you're so off?

(Protip to those who have meters: Just start paying some attention to what it's telling you instead of obeying it like a bitch. And yes, this means shooting manual. A week or two, and you'll be able to take a quick glance and go: "f/5.6 and 1/400th at ISO 100," for instance, just by looking out the window.)

It's mostly for the sake of my black & whites - if I can confirm that the color ones are good, then I can start to figure out why the b&w ones are so much less good, even though I am using the same method to guesstimate. And I wasn't about to fill a thread with badly exposed black and white photos.

I really need to bite the bullet and do this some time, especially since I spend a lot of time shooting on things like my old-ASS TLR with no meter whatsoever so I don't have to bring a digital around with me any time I use it.

But I'm just so damn lazy...
