Norwegian (late summer early fall?) night over some city. The point of the picture was the sky. Obviously the city lights are over exposed, but how couldn't they be if you were to see anything? I used the landscape function on the camera :O

Seeing as how Norway is quite far north, there is usually some sort of light still present during night in the summer months.

Anything I could have done different apart from getting another camera/getting a better tripod/getting a remote for the camera?

You sound like the kind of guy who wants quick easy amazing photos with his Sony Cyber-Shot.
When it comes to night shots you at LEAST need a decent tripod.
Look in to getting a light meter, the kind that measures the ambient light level.
