Hey /p/, i just got my first SLR, cheap entry level thing, Nikon D50. I'm in the market for both a wide angle lens and would also like to get into macro photography.

Any recommendation of lenses to get, i'm no pro and have a budget of around £200-£400 per lens

you ain't pro? get the fuck outta here!

Nikon has a new 60mm macro out, I believe. You may want to look at that. I have used the Tamron 90mm on a Nikon body and it worked well. Both of those should be within the budget per lens.

For the wide angle: Do you mean a zoom?

Thanks for something more helpful than 'get the fuck outta here!'

By wide angle i mean things like this:

62,&SortBy=SkuOfferingPriceASC&IsInStockOnly=False&PageSize=20

So you are happy with a zoom or a fixed focal length?

24/2.8 Nikkor for your wide angle. Wide, but not too wide to learn on.

As for the macro, what do you want to shoot?

Was actually just looking at that lens on Jessops... as for macro stuff, insects mostly.

As long as you're looking to do pretty ordinary (in type and subject) photography, go for it.

If you're looking to shoot insects, you'll want something longish. Look around for reviews and samples and pick the one you like the best that you can afford. Just punch the lens name into Flickr for samples.
