Soup /p/

I've just decided which lens I'm probably going to buy next: The Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro Lens.

Any reason why I shouldn't?

and the price it is, you would imagine its made from gold too.

But more affordable:
Micro-Nikkor AF 105mm f/2.8 D

I just picked up one of these (I wanted the Nikkor 105 VR) However for $240, and two TC's (2x Kiron specific)
I couldn't pass this up! The more I read up on it the more I like it!

You shoot mainly birds, no need for macro?

All of these lenses are FUCKING FAIL.

EXTENDING MACRO = FAILURE

Pro tip: SLRs allow for different lenses. This means you can actually have different lenses for different purposes.

OP here: I am a college student. If I could blow $900 on the Nikkor lens, I would. And I looked at that Kiron and it's a manual focus... So no. Still between the Sigma and the Tamron, but the Sigma's cheaper........

Hmm.

Pro tip: I think you've missed anon's point completely.

Here are the Sigma, Tamron and Canon compared, all extended to their maximum length. The Canon has true IF (lol).

all would include the nikon 105mm. therefore, you are wrong!

Ultimate macro setup.

Infinitely (kind of) adjustable extension tube with 300mm.

It's a bellows system you fukken retard. Ideal macro setup would be a fixed 105mm with a set of auto extension tubes, a ringflash/flash system, and a good tripod.
