I am bored, I'm sure anonymous can relate.

(EXIF is empty, due to editing chain)

What kind of editing gets rid of the EXIF data?

Some versions of corel drop the EXIF data I think.

The kind of editing that goes through programs that don't maintain EXIF data. Obviously.

That is.. kind of interesting actually. Can't say I like it, but interesting.

Love this one. I like clouds in general

Ok, what editing programs get rid of the EXIF data?

Photoshop overrides any exif data in my photos, that my scanner puts into them as I scan in from my slides. i'm pretty sure there are other programs that do this as well. like copying/pasting or changing formats, you're more likely to use EXIF that way.

Ahh interesting. Is there no option to retain the EXIF data in Photoshop? I'm sure I've seen plenty of Photoshopped photos which still have it.

Hmm, maybe they used GIMP or something.

there might be, i'm not sure. Since i shoot slide film, there's no EXIF for it to retain anyway.

No, GIMP doesn't do shit like that, unless you ask for that.

if you open a file that has exif data, whenever you save, either use "save" or "save as" and itll retain exif. if you copy/paste a crop into a NEW FILE then it WILL NOT retain exif. if you want to crop and retain exif, select what you want to crop then image -> crop and save as so you can keep the original.

I'm the OP, The EXIF data is gone, becuase I shoot in RAW mode, my cameras raw mode is a proprietary format, and the third party raw converter I use doesn't support reading EXIF data from the files. I keep all of my raws, so I can get the data through the official raw converter, but it doesn't have the same functionality, and I'm to lazy to hand copy all of the meta data.

I actually shoot RAW+JPEG whenever I flip to RAW mode, mostly because it makes it easier to pull the file metadata.

My RAW2JPEG software likes to eat EXIF too, if you care, try something like this:
$ exiftool -tagsFromFile raw/%f.NEF -EXIF:All -r -ext JPG tmp/

Guess I've been lucky with mine then. UFRaw + GIMP.
