what do you guys think of, the VR lenses that nikon has
>> Anonymous
I think they reduce the effects of hand shaking.

Seriously speaking though, they are pretty good if you want to shoot static targets in low light or targets that are moving laterally (panning). This, however, comes at a price.

picture quality price or price price (i.e. as in money). I ask this because I just found a good 70-200 vr lens for $250.

nikon 70-200 vr lenses retail for $1500+ NEW on eBay, don't get scammed.

250$ is an ok price only if its in good shape, I am not sure how well the VR mechanism age.

1500$ new.. hehe get a grip on yourself. and stop looking in ebay for cameras and lenses.

What, on craigslist? because they "fell" off a truck?

I just checked prices for 70-200VR new lenses on respectable, brick and mortar dealers, and it's everything around 1600$.

Now, I have no experience with Nikons, but on the Canon used market, granted you have a lens in good to mint condition, with good optics and fully functional, it'll probably sell for only a little less than its retail price.

Therefore, $1600 items for $250 sound like a scam to me.

$250 for a 70-200? No way... possibly 70-300, though.

the 70-200 is a pro lens that has f/2.8 all the way through the zoom range. the 55-200 and 70-300 are both consumer level slower lenses
>> Anonymous
Nice, might order one, does anyone know if it will work on an F5?
I Shoot film, a D2X is too expensive.

70-200 would, The 70-300 would also i believe, BUT the 55-200 wouldn't, its a DX sized sensor
>> Anonymous
what does the DX lenses do? I mean do they provide clearer captures or something? whats special about them. I know there has to be
>> Anonymous

DX simply means the lens is made for crop cameras (i.e.: the edges will blur and vignette badly on a full frame camera)

... maybe the 80-200... but the 70-200 is one expensive piece of glass... but it sure is worth every single cent. I personally think it's the BEST piece of glass Nikkor has. The quality throughout it's focal length is so close to Prime quality it just makes me tingle thinking about it...
