Nikkor 50mm f/1.2

mine is very worn, I need a new one. Maybe I'll buy a Zeiss ZF 50mm f/1.4 since it's much more flare resistant. Nikkor f/1.4 is plasticky and doesn't feel as nice since its an AF lens.

Chinon 55mm f/1.4

I contemplated buying a Konica 57/1.2 and converting it, but found a better way to spend $200. f/1.2 is made of SOFTFOCUS and NOT ENOUGH DOF.

How does this perform? I've heard that its overall terrible compared to the f1.8 - bad color/contrast, ect.

I'm guessing he misunderstands the concept of a maximum aperture.

Also: I find the idea of a constant-aperture pinhole zoom very amusing.

SMC Takumar 55mm f/1.8

What actually makes these old beaters good lenses? Build quality, IQ, sharpness? All my old manual lenses are soft as fuck. And i mean soft in the way that canon 18-55 kit lens beats them in sharpness over the whole range. Sure i don't have any Really Good(tm) lenses, but i was expecting better from the regular stuff. Or have the expectations gone up since the old film days?
>> Anonymous
Either you have really cheap lenses, or something is wrong with the method in which you're testing them. Granted a lot of really old lenses aren't as sharp as their modern counterparts, decent old primes usually hold out favorably against modern zooms.
