Get an agent, gallery or patron to do it for you. You can't be an artist and a businessman, every artist I've seen who claims to be is either a poor artist, a poor businessman or both. That sounds like failed elitism but it's not my intent, artists are batshit insane in unique ways and most of the time that leads to shoddy business practices. Lack of time perception, poor handling of finances, etc. If you're starting out, hit all the local art faires, contests, showings, foo. Get a feel for the scene and its consumers. Selling locally generally isn't a problem but if you want to be known outside your county, you really should have someone else selling so you can be creating.
