Looking to buy Anonymous
Hi chan, I'm looking to buy a camera. I would like a nice DSLR, and am willing to spend around $1,200 on it, but I have no idea where to start. Any sense of direction is greatly appreciated.

Get a D80. You can find one for under $1200 if you look hard. I got mine at Best Buy for 11 hundred something. :D

I forgot to mention I got it with the 18-135 lens kit and I forgot to mention http://www.dpreview.com

If you know what DSLR you want, just search the model name on Google and put in forum next to it.

Buy a cheap dSLR like a Nikon d40 or a Canon Digital Rebel and put the money you save into good glass. A Digital Rebel XTi with an L lens will pwn a 1Ds Mk II with a crappy kit lens.

What the hell. Don't get a D40 as it won't work with most of the older Nikkor lenses out there. At least get a D50 or D70s as their prices keep dropping in light of new gear.

Your opinion isn't worth shit, if "doesn't autofocus", in your book, means "won't work".

lol, you probably knew he meant Won't fully function.

I'm not seeing the big draw of the D40, since it only fully functions with a select amount of lenses, and it costs MORE than the d50, It really doesn't seem like such a great deal to me.

Plus used d50's are DIRT CHEAP now

Though I would feel bad for whoever got my d50, lol 20,000 actuations and counting, and I certainly don't baby my camera.

And your opinion that cutting off the plethora of older excellent Nikkor glasses is somehow good for a budding photographer?
