What the hell do you need a manual for? It's two frames with some fabric stretched between them. You should be able to look it from 30 feet away and determine how to operate it.

Also, the way to play a flute is to blow in one end and move your fingers up and down covering the holes with your hands.

There's a difference. If you understand the basics of photography, you should be able to pick up anything from a Minox to a Polaroid 20x24 and be able to work out how to take pictures with it pretty easily.

(If the person doesn't understand the basics of photography, there's no way they could use a large-format camera properly even with a manual)

Google "view camera technique." The book covers pretty much everything.

Not. My. Point.

Knowing the basics of a tool and knowing how to use it is akin to the difference between a Picasso and a finger painting by a child.

Not. The. Point. Of. The. Thread.

I.e., he was asking for a *manual* for it. He wasn't asking for books on composition and photographic technique, he was looking for things like "How do I make the shutter go".

Stroebel's "View Camera Technique" is excellent, but it's also very academic and expensive.

A much better beginner's book would be either Ansel Adams' "The Camera" or "Using the View Camera" by Steve Simmons. The Simmons book is probably your best bet, and is easily had used for very little money.
