what does 2 stop advantage mean? Anonymous
i understand 1/2/3/4 stop advantage for image stabilization because it lets you shoot at a slower shutter speed, so you gain 1/23/4 stops

what does it mean when we're talking about image quality/noise?

is it for example, camera A takes images with this kind of noise at ISO 1600 then camera B takes images with the same kind of noise at ISO 6400, so camera B has a 2 stop advantage

is that it?

actually, not end thread yet

if my camera is set to 1/3 increments, does this mean, let's say i'm in shutter priority mode, every 3 clicks i made with the control wheel = 1 stop?

yes again

Yes. More or less.

(I think there's some rounding involved. And I'm not sure about aperture priority with lenses like the 50/1.8 whose max aperture doesn't fall on a full stop 'cause the math to figure out if f/1.8 is a third stop makes my brain start hurting. But generally yeah)

awesome

Sort of. Remember that in a priority mode, you're making a stop of adjustment to one parameter, but the other is changing a stop in the other direction, so you're still letting the exact same amount of light hit the sensor/film.
