take your camera and heaviest lens to the camera store and do your own research.
put it on the cheapest tripod there. if it wobbles, put it on the next cheapest. so on and so forth.

i've been a professional photographer for years and i've never used a tripod

you don't need one to do any real photography

Whoa, now. I know you're stalking me, but this preemptive misquoting is getting outta hand.

For the record, I own a Manfrotto 055, not a Manfrotto 190.

all the same, i've seen you pimp out your AWESOME manfrotto in every tripod thread

and there you are, you're such a cool guy, man

Well, it is awesome. Not as awesome as a proper carbon fibre one would be, let alone a Gitzo, but still. If somebody wants recommendations on tripods, manfrottos should certainly be considered. They're cost-competitive, well built and you can get parts for them everywhere. I wouldn't recommend one if you're looking for the *cheapest stable tripod* though. There are definitely cheaper options (usually without separate head/tripod).

This is the correct advice. If you just need *stable*, do this and see which is the cheapest for what you need.
