Sup, /p/.
Photography newfag here. I just ordered the Canon Rebel XT from Best Buy (link: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7026069&type=product&id=1099394810083) But now looking at some of the reviews, I heard that it takes really grainy photos. Someone suggested the Nikon D70, but I haven't seen that particular model in stores and correct me if I'm wrong, but the Nikon is a 6MP camera while the Canon has 8MP. Should I take back the Rebel and get something else or is the Canon a good camera? Any help would be nice.

The D70 can be pretty grainy sometimes too.

The Rebel XT can be pretty Canon sometimes too.
>> $19.99 !OSYhGye6hY
Image quality on either will be very similar. Xt is a great camera, it has a very similar sensor to the canon 20/30d. The grain isn't bad at all.
>> Anonymous
still out preforms film grain at similar isos

So, you're saying that they both suck equally? That's comforting. OP here, BTW. Also, I have some OLD (10+ years) Nikon lenses would the D70 be compatible or are the lenses too old to even bother?

IIRC, all Nikons are backwards compatible, so yes. I'm not positve on that though, I'm a Canon user.

Neither camera is going to suck, they're both great consumer DSLRs, go for whichever you want.

Have you had any experience with the Rebel XT? Can you vouch for it?

If you've got a decent amout of old nikon lenses. then just stick with nikon. d70 has a focus motor so if you've got some af lenses, def go d70.

I've never owned one, but I shoot with a 400D/XTi which is the XTs big brother, they're very similar cameras and I've never had a problem with the 400D.

it would be really worth it to save up just a little more and getting a 400D instead of the 350D

The D70 is great but lacks decent high iso performance and the D80 i'd imagine might exceed your budget.

The 400D is a terrific performer even if the ergonomics are dreadful.

The tracks you made doing a U turn to take the photo really make that photo interesting.

Does the d50/60 have a focusing motor? If so OP could probably go with one of those for a little cheaper than the d70
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
The XT is great and don't regret your purchase.

It works better with manual focus Nikon lenses than low level Nikons like the D70, though AF Nikkors will be superior on the D70.

>>215827
D50 does, but the D70s is definitely superior.

are you implying that nikon lenses will work with my canon? talk about a mindfuck.

yup, it's like a $15 adapter

Well, glass is glass, right? All you need is a bit of metal to make the bayonet on the end of the lens the right shape, and push it out to the correct distance from the sensor (the $15 adapter mentioned). Of course, since this only physically fits the lens onto the camera, you lose the Nikon specific mechanical linkages that give you open-aperture viewing and shutter priority. But who cares, you're manually focusing already so you can live with a little more knob turning.
