Photoshop has more megahertz power.
>> WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?????)? !Ep8pui8Vw2
photoshop is much better in my opinion
once you know how to use it, you can make something like that logo in under a minute with all of the shortkeys

theres also unlimited amounts of plugins and combinations with other adobe programs. One example is: exporting point of view data from photoshop to after effects and making a 2D image appear 3D

I do all of my postprocessing in gimp.

Whether this is an argument for or against it is left as a question to the reader.

gimp is perfect for beginners because you're haven't gotten stuck in the photoshop workflow.

picasa is perfect for most photographic editing needs. i only break out the photoshop for retouching or super shoop da whoop tasks.

Everytime I read Computer Shopper articles on photo manipulation they use Elements. Maybe that would be more suitable for noobs.

isn't gimp like 8 bit only?

GIMP is a great system. Unless you've got specific needs it's all that (and more than, really) most people will ever need.

People tend to use PS so much because it is the standard (used by many of the pros and such) and so easy to pirate. You'd have to be a moron to actually buy it just for private use or to play with. That's what GIMP and all those others are for.

For people just wanting to do simple stuff Picasa and other packages are more suited to their needs.

I use the GIMP for all my b-w processing: it's free, multi-platform and does well for dust removal, accurate curve editing. also supports layers, masks, etc to burn/dodge.

for color, I prefer Lightroom for some reason. Digital is great with it. for color film I might do some edits with the GIMP to get rist of dust, or use layers.

I've always found photoshop to be scary with its glut of features. i've just downloaded adobe lightroom at the recommendation of a photopal, hopefully that can add a couple of elements that my NX/Irfan tools are lacking.

In my opinion tho, the less software you throw at your photos, the better. Take good shots, learn PS once you're selling them?
