Hay /p/. Did a little trespassing today.

(Arguably. I didn't actually break into the abandoned building, but I wandered the grounds)

I disagree. I think boosting the color would take away from the "this is an abadoned building" thing, and make it look like a messy cathedral.

Congrats on your trespassing. The however shots don't do a thing for me, even though except the squirrel thing they all theoretically are very proper abandoned stuff. I can't nail down what's missing, but it's like handycam shots from the film plane, vs the film itself. Get it?

Maybe stuff like this just doesn't work outside a gritty b&w film.

i'm not crazy about this set mainly because they only work as a set.>>53372
for instance, does not hold up on its own. the theme of decay and disorder is consistent in all of these, which makes them flow together, but i do not like any one individual picture by itself.>>53368
i like the most, but i see that it's at a slight angle down to the right and there's a black bar on the right. without those 2 distractions, this would look a little more hypnotic andeye catching and i think would widen the perception of the room's size. here i'll try in in photowhoop.

What she said. Get those colors up to Velvia levels, and you're in business. That's a great shot. The rest I'm fairly meh on. Rust just isn't that exciting. As individual shots, they don't hold much appeal. If you created a collage or series, however, you might have something. Consider working on this as a little mini project. Don't limit yourself to the single image as an exhibition of your work. Get creative! :)

Keep on shootin', ac!

I'm considering submitting them to CEPA Gallery, a photo gallery in downtown Buffalo. I don't really think they're gallery quality as such, but the last exhibition I saw there was--and I swear I'm not making this up--a series of poorly-focused self-portraits of the quote-unquote artist kissing her cat each morning for several years. Apparently taken with an old point & shoot film camera.

This was a companion to her other exhibition in the gallery, which featured such items as a television showing images from the Korean war while a device caused it to be repeatedly thumped with a mop.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
>>53512
The mop thing is brilliant. Your work is shit. CLEARLY. JESUS CHRIST MAN, GET IT INTO YOUR HEAD.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
>>53512
Oh, on a serious note though, don't just submit a day's shooting as a full project. Go back, go back, and go back again. When you think you've gone back enough, go back once more. Really saturate the area with shots. Do it in different light. Really explore the space. It doesn't have to take forever. Plan a few trips over a week, work through it on the weekend, and you can have something to submit by the week after. But submitting a day's shooting is just silly, and selling yourself short.

The artist's name is Carolee Schneemann. Apparently she's most famous for a performance piece called "Inner Scroll" in which she strips down, splatters herself with paint, and reads a scroll pulled out of her vagina on which is written some criticism of her previous pieces.

Which is appropriate, since her "art" seems to be pulled mostly out of her ass.

As her art doesn't involve acres of snide comments and bitchiness on /p/, it probably is shit.

>>53512
Ah, conceptual "art."

Did you ever find out what the point of the cat thing or the mop thing was supposed to be?

Or does she refuse to disclose that because of some pseudo-Derrida dung seasoned with a dash of pseudo-feminist urine, like, "My art comes out of the liberating collapse of intelligibility from the Sexual Revolution and therefore I refuse to pin it down in your oppressive Western normative syntax," or something like that?

(Words cannot express how much I enjoyed writing that. I am going to have to do satire more often.)
>> elf_man
>>53532
The sad thing is, I understood that, and why it sounds like Derrida but isn't. Good satire.

Here's a link to info about the exhibits. You now have as much information as I do. Well, except that I got to see the cat pictures up close and see how lousy they were. I believe the little blurb next to it said they were all taken with a cheap point & shoot, which I believe. Probably one not able to focus close enough for the arms-length pictures she was taken, given that every damn one was out of focus.
>> Anonymous
>>53541
Yeesh, I was pretty close.

"certain aesthetic and political concerns catapulted her work into the burgeoning fields of performance and body art... questions the exclusivity of traditional Western categories by creating a space of complementarily, mutuality, and integration... often risky projects wrested pleasure from suppressive taboos... The mytho-historic private and intimate spaces opened between the artist and her cats... hetero-sexual [note hyphen]... age-representations"

Wow, she's so epic what she does with her cats is mythological and historical!

And just so we're absolutely clear, the cat pictures were below the level you normally see posted to MySpace. At least those pictures are generally taken with a camera that can focus close enough for what she was doing.

Literally every photo is just her and her cat, blurry and out of focus, taken on a cheap point & shoot film camera. I'm a strong supporter of the philosophy that Art photography doesn't have to be perfectly focused or perfectly exposed or taken with high end equipment... but if you're gonna take really shitty photographs, I'm gonna stand by my guns that it's not art if it's just pictures of you and your damn cat.

Maybe if she were throwing the cat at a bucket of water while Dali jumps in the background, but these were just her kissing it.

Almost makes me vote for a Republican to cut some public funding for art.

If ya'll like disturbing, interesting art, check out Cindy Sherman, she's nuts but as I grow older, I respect her photography more. But it's still fricked up:

>Maybe if she were throwing the cat at a bucket of water while Dali jumps in the background, but these were just her kissing it.

"Dali Atomicus" is cool, but not much more. It doesn't provoke anything more in the viewer than "Holy shit, lol, a deranged and talented Spaniard is leaping into the air as some cats are abused and soaked, in the proximity of a chair and some other shit! Lol!"

Dali did his best work after he got out of his let's-be-weird-and-paint-stuff-that-would-freak-the-fuck-out-of-/b/ phase. Unfortunately, it's that stuff that he's famous for.

>>53571
Agreed.

From what little I've seen just now, the only thing disturbing about Schneemann is, well, Schneemann. And that she gets retrospectives of her work in galleries.
