The thing about architectural shots (especially interiors) is that you need really wide angle lenses, and more importantly, a good lighting setup. If this is supposed to be professional calibre, I suggest getting a relatively inexpensive body, like a D70 or D50, a cheap 50 f/1.8 prime for detail shots, and the fabulous Sigma 10-20. With whatever is left over, get a tripod, a cheap flash that won't fry your camera, and either some cheap eBay radio transmitters or a PC Sync or off-camera hotshoe cord. Get an assistant to hold the flash where you want it.
