hi /p/,
i wanna get a new cf for my 350D. but what do i really need? extreme III or even IV? think an ultra II should be enough ... what do you think?

Ultra II is enough.

Seconded. III and IV offer better durability but for speed, II is enough.

i can't get them at my place anymore, so it will be most likely an ultra II now, thanks.

Does the same thing go for SD cards? I'm asking because I have one of the blue Sandisk cards, and a 60x Lexar card, and even with single shot there is a clear difference between them.

All cards will eventually end up topping out at some point as the card will be as fast as the camera can handle.

so does anybody know the actual rwitespeed of the 350D, or give a link please? it's not in the manual ...

I'll try and find it later if no one gets to it first. I saw a couple of good articles where there were tests with various speed cards to see what the true value in faster cards were and if it was worth while for a particular model. Saved me from wasting money on top end cards that I or my camera wouldn't have benefited from.

IIRC the IV was an absolute waste with the 350D as it was no faster than the III. I'd have to check for the comparison with III and II and so on.

wow, that was fast, thanks really a lot!

Ultra II is definitely enough.

If you don't use burst, a non ultra will be ok, as your camera's buffer (14 jpg) should cover you.

I knew nothing of IV but i honestly though the main difference betwen the II and III was that III was meant for extreme conditions like extreme cold or tropical heat.

Am i wrong?

something like that. and the IIIs are rated to be twice as fast as the IIs. IIs are rated for 10 MB/s, IIIs are 20 MB/s and IVs are 40 MB/s.
