Im thinking of getting an XSI when it comes out next month. This will be my first digital SLR.

Does /p/ think its worth it?

I really don't get what's so great about spot metering. If you have time to spot meter, you have time to take a shot without spot metering, adjust, and reshoot. Assuming that center-weighted average metering is way off from the exposure you wanted.

i tend to be out taking pictures when it starts to get dark so spot metering would be a nice feature for me.

also, should i get the body only or should i get the kit?

If you get the XSi, go for the kit. It comes with the 18-55 IS, which is pretty win.

For the price, its the best camera on the market. Easily. The new kit lens is 17-55 with image stabilization, nit lik the old rebel kit that wasnt worth a crap. I think it retails for like %800. The price om the Xti will not drop drastically. The price on the rebel xt stayed about the same after the Xti came out. I'd say go for it.
