Used D70 for 400 dollars. I'm using a d40 right now. Is it worth purchasing, or should I hold off until the d90 comes out (if it does) and I can find a used d80 for cheaper? Is the d80 that much better than the d70? There's rumors that the 70's metering is better than the 80's, but I don't know anyone with a d70 for me to try out.

I'd recommend waiting. From what I understand, the D70's high-ISO ability sucks, even compared to the D40. It's a step up in product range, but a step down in technological age.

(Although the D70 does have the nice ability that it'll sync with flash at any speed)

the d40 syncs at 1/500, which is still pretty damn good.

but, no. wait to buy a new camera. you've already got a dslr, so shoot with that until you completely outgrow it, then move up a class, e.g. to the D300.

What you have is fine. It's not worth spending as things will change a lot soon with new announcements anyway.

Yep, what anon said. Keep on with what you have, save up a bit, then move up a class. Don't waste time and money going for "a bit better".

Incidentally, talking of Canon, saw a D3 demo courtesy of a pro friend. Oh. My. God. Low light photography that looks better than most DSLRs in daylight. I thought he was joking when he told me the ISO settings at first.

any info on the d90?

i dont really see where they will place it as spec wise it wont be as good as the d200 and will cost about the same price as a used one so i cant see where it fits in?

Everyone seems to be keeping a tight lid on the information right now. It won't be long before PMA and the announcements begin.

If it's like the D80, then the D90 will bring the metering, AF, and sensor from the D300 in a cheaper body while cutting the more professional features. The D300 is brand new, so don't expect to see a D90 until Q4 2008.

In the meantime, D40x replacement and MAYBE a D80s at PMA.

Except the D40 viewfinder is actually handicapping you more than you think.
Try MF with that same lens on a D200, BIG difference

What about the DK-21M (magnifying eyepiece)? I've never tried it, though.

Can't hurt. Get that and the focusing screen and the D40 ought to be usable.

The internets are telling me that the eyepiece doesn't properly fit on the d40. Is this true?

speaking of the op's pic, I was thinking of getting the battery grip for the d80, does anyone have a good experiences with it.
