Sad. :(

But I really do like that shot. With a little bit of manipulation i think you got something here.
>> Anonymous
AT least it conveys emotion and purpose unlike 99% of the stuff on /p/. Composition is good too.

>>84641

Thanks. I kind of wish my car wasn't in the shot.
(I didn't hit the doggie by the way.)

I'd say the car adds a good sense of story. Better context, but doesn't clutter it up too much. The composition really is very nice.
But sad picture is saaaad.

I bet that shot made it all worthwhile turning the gun on ol' yeller.

Car's the best part.

Without the car, it's just "Here's a dead dog."

With the car, it's "Oh shit, this dog just got hit by a car"
>> Anonymous
>>84641

The car is a lie though.

The world is not two dimensional.

All photography is a lie.

Or, stated differently:

Beauty is truth, truth beauty. That is all ye know on Earth, and all ye need to know.
>> Anonymous
There's also a dead bird to the right of the car.
Scary

>>84654
"Two dimensional" is an abstract concept.

Photos are 3D on a microscopic level.

Life is a lie.
>> Anonymous
this is great, the composition is fantastic its like you were really there at the moment when the dog got killed and the driver is like... ph shit i hit that dog. The lines and position of the dog and car are good but... when i look at this i can't help but tilt my head to the side. Did you take one without the artistic slant.

Protip: The Photographer was the driver
>> sage
>>84668
Don't fucking protip me asshole where did i say that the driver wasn't the photographer. He himself says he sought of wishes his car wasn't in the shot. And what i'm saying is that its a good thing. So why don't you go be a smartarse on someone else's internet.

Thanks for contributing to the thread.

OP here, I couldn't find any other good angles really, all the other shots the dog takes up too much of the photo. And I don't think my camera was really slanted, maybe the road makes it look that way.

Here's a similar picture of the birdie. That road just reaked of death, it was surreal.

Keats wrote great poetry- topped only by Shelley and maybe Blake amidst the Romantics- but I've never gotten that quote. Not in the sense of not understanding it, but in the sense of not objecting to it. First, are you telling me that, say, Jim Nachtwey's shots of starving African babies are "beautiful?" They're true, they're aesthetically good art, but I wouldn't say they're beautiful. Second, it's a problematic quote to go by because things that seem beautiful at first glance often aren't at a deeper examination. So with the first reservation aside, I can see its truth, but it's not something I'd rely on.

And more in line with the original topic of "truth in photography," I would like to bring up this Mike Johnson piece: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/columns/sm-04-03-07.shtml

damn, this photo could have been so awesome.

A long exposure facing the trees with a tripod almost level to the bird.

Still pretty good though.
