n00b here OP
I want to start taking nicer pictures than what I normally can take. so there are 2 ways for that:
1. learning how to take better pictures
2. getting better lenses so the picture quality is better and I can shoot better shots at night for example.

So, a bit of both, for example in this picture I took. How can I make it look better?
The internet is too big for me, and I wouldn't know where to start the search for guides or anything, so if you point me into the right direction it would also be really apreciated.

2. Still, when taking pictures at night, the qualit suffers a lot. I have an A650, is there a good lens that you would recommend? I don't mean a lens that would break the bank, but just something that would make my low-light shots look better.

for starters the background is distracting, the bottom is cut off and there is a knife in the picture

Are you a troll?

oh I see, so not just take the picture anywhere, but take care of the elements that will appear in the picture.

No, I'm not a troll, I'm this dumb.
I bet you would look like a troll if you came to /g/ where I mostly hang out and asked if the 9300 GT was a good buy or not.

I'm just not a pro. But I can see how the pictures that people post here beat mine by a 1000 times. I would just like to know some small tricks to make mine not look so damn wrong.

Google any beginner's guide and read through or go to the library and get a book on photography.
