2mm worth $100 Anonymous
pic unrelated

im trying to decide on a new lens for my cannon eos 30d. ive come down to the sigma 24 1.8 but i noticed as i was checking out that the 28 1.8 is 100 bucks cheaper. is it worth it?

your math is fail, its 4mm not 2mm

And it is worth the 100$ more IF
You want a wide on FF in the future (28mm is decently wide, but not quite the 24mm)

Prefer 36mm (on aps-c)
Over 42mm aps-c

Both flare pretty bad under direct sunlight though, so its not the greatest landscape lens if the sun is at the edge of the frame.

not really, it has a few advantages (F1.4 of course, and HSM)
For one its a DX lens
and two, its close focus distance is not close at all, nowhere near the 24 and 28mm f1.8's

Center sharpness is good on the 30mm, but the 28 and 24mm f1.8 are sharper in the corners up to about f2.8.

Bokeh is superior though, the 24 and 28mm have a harsh edge to the OOF elements.
