No in-body AF motor. IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROPHECY.

Didn't Nikon already have a 60mm macro lens?
>> elf_man !!DdAnyoDMfCe
>>118865
Yeah, but it isn't af-s. That's important for anything based on the d40, for the autofocus.

>>118862
Maybe this means they'll finally start bringing out more AFS primes.
OH WAIT there's hardly any market for them outside of bitter oldfags and hipsters. D:

Looks like the D60 is even less of an upgrade than Sony's A200.

I mean, it's just a D40x with some kind of dust reduction system, isn't it?
>> Anonymous
>>118869
Nikon's 50/1.8s sell like hot cakes here despite the faggotry with AF motors. So Nikon will relly shoot itself in the foot if they don't release an AF-S prime in the 40-50mm range.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>118871
Some of us thing the A200 is a DOWNGRADE from the A100 but nvm that.

How much inbody stuff does the D60 plan to do, its like Ken made the body!

D60 has built in Photoshop CS3' you read it here first folks.

the seperation between d80 and d40 was awesome already. getting something to compete with the xsi without liveview and with d40 image quality, that's crap.
>> anonymous
its just how the d40x should have been. where they gave it a new sensor insted cramming an extra 4 million onto the d40 sensor

fuck this makes me fuckign angry

New lenses too

Nice batch of lenses of be brought out. Rumoured AF-S fixed focals towards the end of the year.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
Just saw the price listing for the 16-85mm... hmmmm

essentially the same aperture range as the 18-200mm but only a dozen dollars off... the IQ better be stellar to warrant it.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
snore. another consumer camera for soccer dads and high school kids to argue about on the dpreview forums (and here, unfortunately).

the tantalizing possibility of af-s primes is definitely very interesting, though. it's about fucking time that nikon catches up with canon in that department; it's just a hands-down better design.

and, op. they just released a d80 upgrade. it's called the D300. lollollolololollololol.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119096

Nikon didn't really need AF-S versions of the classic focal lengths (remember they've had AF-S 200mm 300mm telephotos for a while) since until the D40 all the cameras had motors.

I'm thinking they probably didn't expect AF lens sales to even be a beep for D40/x owners. Guess it's surprised them.

The D60 is obviously an attempt to distance the D40x further from the D40...cause let's be honest. It's a glorified D40x.

The D80 doesn't need an upgrade just yet, it's still selling really really really well for Nikon and is more than a capable camera. The D300 is a viable option for those who feel the need to upgrade.
>> Anonymous
OP here. I hate this, darn. I'm underage, /p/, and I'm actually thinking of getting into photography, did quite some research on what to buy, and ended up with my eyes on the d80, since if i buy an entry-level, it won't last that long. what do you think? get a d80 (with lower price of course due to d60) or just get the d60, or get a canon.

I'm thinking of using it for probably just candid pictures with friends, some events, blah blah blah; and maybe do some paid work for shooting some events too. What does /p/ think?
>> Anonymous
>>119101
The entry-level DSLRs *will* last you a long time! In the interest of money, you would probably be better off with the cheaper DSLRs.
>> Anonymous
>>119101

Also, I'm thinking of looking cool with the camera. Wouldn't want to get seen with a dslr that looks like a PaS.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119101

The D80 is a great camera, it's what i would have bought instead of the D70s had i waited 2 months. But I will now defend my purcahse top the death cause i'm a stubborn DPreview troll. Oooh yeah.

Back on point, the D80 price shouldn't be affected by the D60... I doubt there would be much cannibalism within the sales.

For best price, look around and if there's a cashback offer fro Nikon. TAKE IT!!

With internet shopping, make sure you check the seller's reputation on line before you purchase.

you can always check back here for insults the suggestions.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119103

Well then you need a big fuck off shiny lens.

I remember a douche with a D200 had a 18-55mm attached... i was like WTF... and the douche was giggling at my D70s... with the tank 17-55mm 2.8...

Oh, funnily enough, when i've got that lens on and i attach a speedlight... any charity dinner event i goto with the parents or just the old man... everyone gets out of my way or poses for me...

It's funny like that
>> sv !!vC9KZM3Ch/H
D60 makes me flaccid.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119106

Yeah it's not exciting, but what's the big deal? It's not for us. Just like the D40/x

The new micro lens i'm somewhat interested in.

Oh, I forgot.

There's your first AF-S Fixed Focal that's shorter than 105mm. The 60mm Micro 2.8!!!
>> Anonymous
>>119105

so, im thinking a d80+prolly an 18-200mm when i get nuff money, but let's say, i'll get an 18-55vr for starters, since people say the 18-135mm sucks ass because of distortion.

i'll just check this thread tomorrow, can't keep my eyes open
>> sv !!vC9KZM3Ch/H
It just seems more like a D40x take two. I was kind of interested in that 16-85mm, but for retail $650, I can think of other things I'd rather kind of be interested in.

Although I'll admit I'm confused by this tilting 24mm lens. Can someone explain?
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119109

Not a bad option, is there a kit available for the D80 and 18-200? Just thinking it'll be cheaper.

Make sure you get a good copy of the 18-200, that it's sharp or at least clear throughout the entire range. It's a good all rounder, but not perfect by any means.
>> Anonymous
It makes me feel like Nikon made the D60 just so they don't come up empty-handed during PMA.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119110

Perspective Correction is mainly for architecture or anything where you don't want the visual distortions that camera lenses have.

Like when you take a photo of a door kneeling down you'll notice the two sides point towards a vanishing point, the PC corrects that and makes the sides stright and parallel again... know what i mean?
>> Anonymous
the tilt lens works like a miniature view camera. you can tilt, raise and pivot the front element to minimize distortion in architectural photography. you can also achieve specific focus effects.
>> sv !!vC9KZM3Ch/H
>>119113
>>119114

Ah, okay. I get it. I tend to prefer distortion in my architecture shots, but I can see where it wouldn't be wanted.

Oooh yeah. (Jeremo trademark)

Ive been waiting for this since Christmas...so sadly enough I'm getting one.
I'm gonna regret it later when they come out with something like a D60X in 6 months.

Any news on a possible 50mm w/ built in motor?

>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119118

I do second that, espeically since even new ones can be had for about 500 dollars, provided you can find one. D50 or D70s i mean.

I remember reading the 50mm 1.4 AF-S and 85mm f/2 AF-S are due later this year. Oooh yeah.

Rumours though.

Well I was thinking of getting a D40X before I read the rumors about the D60 so I decided to wait.

I'm not really looking into spending that much, something around $600-$700 since this will be my first DSLR...and I dont have that much to spend.

>>119118
I was looking at the D80 but its almost $800 for the body only. I wish I could get something like that but money is kind of an issue.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119127

Look for a used D50 or D70s. Seriously, like from someone who bought one but rarely used it. The Ma and Pa types. They usually keep them in great shape and rarely rough em up... the same advice can definitely be applied to Cars too.

Work out your exact budget amigo, then get your butt back and we can talk then.

It's hard not knowing the boundaries.
>> sv !!vC9KZM3Ch/H
>>119127

A used D50 or D70s could have had in that range with a 50mm f/1.8 lens I bet.

I know the Fn button on D40/x can be set to change ISO, but is that with the command dial or does it just throw you into a menu? If it's the latter, then I'd really go for a D50 or D70s. I get annoyed when I have to change from Matrix to Center weighted metering in a menu; I can't imagine changing ISO in a menu.
>> Anonymous
>>119136

You use the command dial for all the Fn button functions
