Has anyone had any experiance with this camera? A friend of mine wants to get it as her first DSLR but I'm a nikonfag and know nothing about Pentax.

I love my K20D, my first dSLR after many years of Olympus Pen-FT and various 35+120 filmcams and PNS digicams. K10D is good (so I hear), K20D is rather much better. When I bought it a few months ago, it was the only under-US$5K body over 12 mpx.

Major reasons to buy a K20D:

* Ruggedized build; long battery life; flexible.
* All those nice fat juicy dripping megapixels.
* Use virtually any old Pentax-compatible lens.
* It's not a Canikonypus -- be a damn maverick!

Major reasons not to buy a K20D:

* It's not a Canikonypus; so, small fan club.
* You might NEED a costly super-pro dSLR, eh?
* Low-light AF could be better, so be still.
* Pentax' roadmap and future are rather foggy.

I chose the K20D because 1) Pentax had the lenses I wanted; 2) it had the best price / performance curve; 3) users raved about it. I'm quite happy with it. Whether it's for YOU depends on your budget, needs and expectations.

The K200D is pretty good.

The K20D is significantly better than the K200D, and the K10D is very similar to the K200D but with some bonus weather sealing and such.

I have a K10D and I LOVE using old glass on it.
You can get a manual focus 28mm, ƒ2.8 prime for about $35 on eBay.

Let's not forget the currently overpriced (but for a good reason) teleconverter that adds 1.7x range and turns your manual lenses into autofocus.

the continuous shooting in the k200d is absolutely laughable

2.8fps for 4 frames in Continuous (Hi)
• 1.1fps (JPEG) until the memory card is full in Continuous (Lo) or for 4 frames (RAW)
