a steady hand? Anonymous
I have a DSLR and I find that I have trouble holding it steady when I don't use a tripod, sometimes a tripod is too inconvenient or not posile to use. Is there any tips or tricks I can use to hold the camera steadier when I shoot?

- Use nearby furniture, lampposts, etc. creatively
- Attach an external flash, rotate its head backwards so it presses against the top of your forehead
- Buy a camera or a lens with image stabilization, a monopod or an arm-mounted support contraption that's used with video cameras (if you can find it)
- Consult a doctor if all else fails

Use something to hold the camera steady. Flat surfaces, for example. In a pinch, you can press the bottom of your camera against a light pole or something for portrait-orientation shots, which'll keep it stable along at least one axis.
