Soup /p/.

I have a Nikon D40 kit and will be upgrading in the next few days.. I need advice on which path I should take.
What I wanted to do is purchase the Nikkor 70-300 AF-S VR Lens and the
Nikon AF 10.5mm f/2.8 G Fisheye Lens.
I'm okay with the puny d40 body and features, but I demo'd a D300 and really liked it. What say you /p/, should I get lenses or body first?

Of course you liked the D300 after using a D40...

But you'd be stupid to upgrade and would be spending a hell of a lot more money. Keep the D40 and get better lenses.

Get her body first.

Don't buy a fisheye unless you are retarded.
>> Anonymous
i take a lot of photos of concerts, cosplay, aggressive sports. I could implement the fisheye well.

Thank you, that's what i was kinda hoping for.

fisheye is always gonna look like a gimmick
>> Kilz2latex !!3htj9hFDMA4
>>290595
fisheye would only work if you do typical skateboarding photos, of if a band your shooting specifically asks for it.
>> Anonymous
>>290595

It always looks cheap and always gets boring after a handful of shots.

fisheye lenses seem to attract retarded beginners like shit attracts flies

Fisheye is only gimmicky if you suck balls and aren't creative. Any other advice? the 70-300 VR lens is going to be my all around lens, any suggestions on anything else? I'll also be getting an SB600 but possibly SB800. Don't know which would be more useful. I do not have a studio.

seems to me the 70-300 is going to be huge and heavy as shit.
you might be more interested in a couple smaller zooms
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
>>290707
If you have the strength and endurance, heavier lenses are advantageous because they are easier to hold steady.
>> Anonymous
>>290693

No. Fisheyes are usually used by people who are uncreative and suck balls but are hoping for a "magic bullet" in the form of the fisheye to solve their problems. They take the same boring shots at they did before - but now with the fisheye effect. Oh wow.
>> Kilz2latex !!3htj9hFDMA4
>>290708
how is it easier to hold something that weighs say ten pounds straight than it is to hold something thats say 5 pounds?
>> Anonymous
70-300 huge and heavy? Hardly.
>> SAGE
>>290708
um what?
id say the opposite, a heavy lens is often a telephoto, and a light is often a wide, i can easily hold a wide more steadily
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
>>290718
>>290716
Trust me on this. I first noticed it with rifles. The slight adjustments you keep making to hold it steady are slowly and more gradual because of the weight. If you don't believe walk into a sporting goods store and try it. Make sure the gun has a scope though, otherwise it is not as apparent.
>> Kilz2latex !!3htj9hFDMA4
>>290721
guns are balanced with more weight in the but arent they?

all the weight is going to be on the front with a long lens

>>290717
i wouldnt know just a guess...
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
With a decent sized tele you might be able to adopt the correct standing position, but i doubt it. I will be messing about with a tripod mount when I get one to see if its possible :P

As for shake, a heavy lens has more inertia which keeps it from shaking about so much.
>> SAGE
>>290721
then its a mental thing, becasue i cant handhold my 500mm and i can handhold my 24mm at 1/15
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
>>290729
Well no shit sparky. We're talking equivalent focal lengths, not wide vs long. The shake of the photographer will be progressively less apparent the wider you go because you are looking at more and more of the image, as in the you cannot see the shake as much.

Also lol 500 at 1/15 what are you silly?
>> Anonymous
>>290729

i can hand hold 300mm at 1/20 with VR

you must fail
>> Anonymous
i would suck on those tits
>> Anonymous
OP here,

Keep in mind it is a VR lens and I agree that the HEAVYness of the lens helps in my opinion.. but it's not heavy. pussies.

>>290741
i have.
>> Anonymous
i would destroy her pussy
>> Anonymous
A light lens is harder to brace properly than one with a decent amount of weight.

Is that Anne Marie Young? If so, I know this girl!
>> Anonymous
>>290763

no. i have many photos of this girl and will be taking more. if /p/ gives good advice to me i will present more.
>> Anonymous
>>290769

Don't buy a fisheye lens. If you're worth your salt as a photographer then you will end up regretting getting it before you buy more useful gear. A fisheye is something that will be used as a toy until the novelty wears off and then end up resting at the bottom of a kit bag for most of the time, apart from the occasion you care to dust off the toy for the odd idea.

Good luck.

this is a worksafe board, so we won't get tits

not that i can't get tits any other place on the internet or on several boards on 4chan...

>>290775
I work at titty bar, you insensitive clod!
>> Anonymous
Ahh, boobs.
Excellent.

Why are artistic depictions of boobs non-worksafe, btw?
>> Anonymous
>>291175

Because people are prudes and bosses rarely take the time to differentiate between artistic tits and non-artistic ones?
>> Anonymous
>>291177

If you're browsing 4chan at work, you deserve to be fired.

agreed, get the lenses first, they will expand your shooting capabilities far more than a new camera will
>> Anonymous
I have a d40 too, and the first things I bought were the 18-200 lens, and the SB-400 speedlight. Directional flashes ftw. If you're doing anything indoors, the onboard flash is just too puny for words.

i do fancy a fisheye though
