Nikon D50 shutter broken in fall Anonymous
My poor D50 took a fall a day ago and dislodged the mirror so that it got stuck open when I tested the camera after the fall. The mirror The mirror peice fell out when I opened the camera, but doesn't seem broken, just dislodged.

I've checked about looking for camera repair services and seen quotes in the realm of $200 dollars for a "broken shutter". This seems a bit steep for me.

The camera is no longer under warranty.

I'm looking to either A- send the camera someplace for repairs, lowest reliable price goes. I couldn't find a price quote in the service area of Nikon's website. I'll give them a call tomorrow.

B- DIY DSLR shutter repair guide. I'm reasonably mechanically inclined with a steady hand. A repair manual or reference to a guide for fixing problems similar to mine would be welcome. If such information exists, I'll gauge for myself if I am capable of performing the repair.

to the best of my knowledge, only the shutter/mirror is dislodged. I haven't taken the camera apart to see if anything else is broken.

Pic is a cannon with a similar looking problem, haven't got a camera to document the problem.
