can /p/ recommend me a very portable tripod?

and what your general thoughts on monopods? they seem kind of retarded to me
>> Anonymous
Monopods double as weapons, are useful when you're lacking space, and are great for panning with ease. They're obviously not as stable as a tripod, but it does help reduce shake.

I still don't understand monopods. How do they work and do they stand still on their own? Do they work outside or just somewhere with extremely flat ground?

And to answer OP, try a gorillapod. I just got one a couple months ago and I love it. It's never too heavy or bulky for me to carry around with my normal camera stuff and it works where some tripods wouldn't.
pic related its the one i have (SLR version)

>>299336and what your general thoughts on monopods? they seem kind of retarded to me

Yep, pretty much, unless you have a super tele and shoot sports.

All of my lenses have IS in them so it's like I had a monopod with me everywhere I went. It's superior in so many ways, it just sucks to pay more for them though.

>>299348
They don't stand still on their own, you're practically putting your camera on a cane while you focus and shoot. It's a bit like a third leg. Your camera might shake sideways, but not vertically, as you'll be holding the camera against the ground. It allows you to do longer exposures, but nowhere as long as you could with a good tripod.

I use a 'sherpa pro' monopod, made by velbon I guess. Carbon fibre, collapses nice, very good.

Monopods are for dudes shooting sports (like me) with huge, fast, prime lenses (not me yet). Try hand holding a 400mm f/2.8 lens for extended periods, it's not fun.

Look closely at the photo. Notice that Canon are seemingly the only company out there to put lens elements in their lens hoods.

Yes a company just moving into pro-photography is going to have a huge back cat of work with their gear.

You do know all that add is saying is that by using sony equipment you too can take awesome photos that used to take super pros lots of hard work on inefficent nikons that were a chore to work with.

RIGHT?

I don't think you get the joke. These are famous images that are photoshopped specifically to capture the "wrong" moment. The original has the monkey's mouth open, jumping backwards in mid-air. They are supposed to be funny. This is what>>299370was laughing at most likely.

Also, it's an ad. What other message are they supposed to give?

Monopods are good, OP, but personally, I prefer being a tripod. Pic related.

the 430 costs $200

if you don't need automation, by all means, get any manual flash for half the price

>> i used nissin d622 for about $130 and it only lose to 580II by it recycle time. all other feature are PRO

can you provide a spec sheet or do we all just believe what you say?

does it matches the 580's GN 190 at 105mm?
does it have weather seals?
does it command other TTL flashes?
does it have automatic flash?
does it automatically adjust spread to your focal length?
does it vary power from 1/1 to 1/128?

if not, then it's not PRO

Sorry guys. I am late to the party. I was thinking you could use a monopod as a steady tripod with a little modification. Get some of that super strong and thin wire. Attach 3-4 lengths at the top of the tripod and at the other ends have hoops you can either use tent hooks to bash into the ground (If it's dirt or grass) or put something heavy like a few bricks etc on the ends. It would require little weight (Well apart from taking bricks that is lol. You ain't that dumb right?). Just a bit of modification.

Here is a better use of string to stabilise a camera

holy fuck you people are retarded when it comes to monopods. They aren't meant to be a replacement for tripods, they are there to support the weight of longer lenses (think 300+ 2.8 primes)
>> Anonymous
>>301133
they will also help you gain an extra couple stops in situations where a tripod is not allowed.
