Pentax Camera? Anonymous
I'm looking at getting a D-SLR.... Pentax is what I am looking at.. I am between the K100D, and the K110.... the K110 is cheaper.. but is it worth it? Which one should I get?

There are alot of K-mount lenses on eBay, and in my local camera shop.. since getting lenses is no problem.. and the same with flashes.

So /p/, Pentax K100D or K110?

I got me a K110D, Id say its worth it. Takes some pretty nice pictures.

Be warned, ISO doesnt go below 200 and the color balancing tends to fail at night, however, its very good during the day.

I know the only difference between the K110, and the K100D is the fact the 100D has Shake reduction or whatever.

I usually don't shoot at night.. but getting a fast fast prime, and knowing what your doing, and ISO200 won't be that bad

the shake reduction is definitly worth it imho.
i use a k10d, and im happy to take pics at 1/5th sec at 50mm if they are for interent res

obviously, if your making a large print, the sharpness wont be good enough, but for web, its sweet.

I can't afford a K10D.... But I can either afford the K110, or the K100D... Just not sure if there is any other real differences between them besides IS.

There's not. Get the K100.

Seriously. If you're looking at Pentax get the 100. I just got one this week. The shake reduction is totally worth it. I shot this at 1/4 and its focal point is crisp as ever.

I have bought the Pentax K100D in the past month and I am highly impressed with it and it's shake reduction. I've had to use my tripod a lot less with it and the handling of it is comfortable so there is less shake anyway.

Vibration reduction is overrated. You don't need it most of the time, it isn't replacement for fast lenses, in camera stabilization is vastly inferior to proper in lens vibration reduction.

>You don't need it most of the time,

Depends on what sort of photography you do.

>it isn't replacement for fast lenses

No, but it helps. And what if you want some depth of field for a night scene?

>in camera stabilization is vastly inferior to proper in lens vibration reduction.

Not from what I've seen, and slightly worse IS that is on every cheap lens is better than slightly better IS with a huge pricetag on only a few lenses.

K10D. The only good Pentax.

But primes don't come with IS.

Therefore "vastly inferior" IS > No IS at all.

There are some telephoto primes with IS, but they're mostly in a price range out of reach of everyone in /p/.
>> Anonymous
They don't make normal and wide primes with IS? That's stupid.

Definately, then, at least for now, sensor stabilization wins.

I don't have that kind of money.

What kind of money do you have? You can get the K10D and the 18-55 lens for about $700 after the mail-in rebate. I personally think it's worth the price difference (I have one), but go for what's within budget and has the best fit in your hands. One thing I like about the K100D, though, is that it takes standard batteries, which are easier to find if you're out shooting than a charged Li-ion battery. I *needed* a vertical grip (and 10 MP were nice, too, since I'd like to be able to make some large prints).

Less than $600 if possible.
