sup /p/

i really enjoy my 10-22mm lens a lot
here are a few photos i took yesterday
i also own the 100mm 2.8 macro lens

do i really need another lens? i feel it's very hard to create anything interesting or creative/artsy with a telephoto lens. (prove me wrong?)

anyway

Goddamn it, I actually really like all 3
First one is good at being creepy, Though I have a feeling more photoshop was involved than should have been.
Second one is great, Nice horizontal patterns contrasted by the diagonal fingers (and nice and sharp too)

third looks like its from a horror movie, albeit the blown walls look a tad strange, would have been nice to keep those in check.
(good job on the slight motion blur on her hand to make it look like she is really fleeing)
>> anonymous
i really like the 1st and 2nd, not so much the third but all very interesting...what is the 100mm macro you own?

My order of preference, best first:

>>118665
>>118663

You don't need to worry too much about collecting gear and lenses. Just because someone else has a dozen lenses doesn't mean you have to. You can be a DPReview gearhead with a bag of lenses but still be retarded and uncreative with photos.

Use what you need to get the shot. If you have an idea in mind that your current gear is not suited to, then it might be time to upgrade or add to what you have. Before spending a lot of money it might be worth trying some out or even renting if you can.

Oh yeah, -1 for using borders. :P

I do most of my shooting with my 35-135 or my 80-200 :) I can post a picture from it if you want a sample/

>>118665
This one's my favorite of all three.

>>118663
The angle just seems off to me in this one, it just isnt' very appealing (hopefully it was for fun instead of serious).

>>118664
Love it

In order of favorites:

>>118665
I like it because it fits the feeling of the escape very well. Color and everything is nice. If it was more like>>118663then it would be even better IMHO.

>>118663
This one is very good but her face seems to be the same tone as the wall behind her which makes it too bright for me. I really do like it though, especially the position and the attitude she gives.

>>118664
The only reason I put this one last (I love all of them) is because the glare surrounding her on the wall behind could be a bit brighter for a bit more character. But honestly I like it just as much as>>118663, and I think the clothing choice is great.
>> Anonymous
Love the second photo.

How's the lens, beethy? I'm contemplating getting it.

Meant to say if the contrast was more like it.

Proof that skinny people can also use the high contrast Myspace angle shot.
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
>>118838
sorry about the borders.. they're made for dA, photos look crappy against that shitty gray
and thanks!

>>118851
show me some cool 80-200 shots :D :D

>>118879
thanks anon, lovely detailed critique that will help me on my next .. stuff
thanks!

>>118880
get it get it get it
is all i can say
of all the lenses i've used (i've pretty much tried em all in store, including fish eye) this one is the most fun to use creatively
you can do so many things with it!

This one is one of my recent favorites. She was up high, so i stood right under her and shot up. I thought she looked pretty cool.

in b4 trolling. I'm aware of the issue with not being able to see her eyes here, but she was up on a large set of stairs. I couldn't get that close to her without cutting out a lot of the background I wanted to get in there, so I stood at the bottom and shot up. I love my zooms.

Great shots, particularly the 2nd, the pop on her hands is amazing. I really want this lens. However I'd want to use it for landscape as well so hows the barrel distortion the wider end?

here's a crappy photo of mine which shows detail in the corner (100% crop)
barrel distortion really isn't that bad at all
landscape photos look amazing with this lens

Man i needs that Sigma 10-20... Really really need an Ultra wide.

Great stuff.
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
>>119019
Before you do, try it out in a store first.. I did that with the Canon 10-22mm to check for barrel distortion, fuzzyness in the corners and cromatic aberration
I heard the Sigma is slightly worse than the Canon one IQ wise so I'd really do the above :]
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>119038

When i do get one i'll grab one from Teds, they're really good with returns.

I personally don't think you can check out all the faults in the store anyway, it needs to be field tested :D

Sigma 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC HSM v. Canon 10-22mm F3.5-4.5 USM :
http://www.pbase.com/lightrules/uwatest

It seems the Canon 10-22 is marginally better than the Sigma 10-20. It's quite a bit more expensive though. I might consider the Canon if it's included in a cashback action some time soon.
>> Anonymous
>>119061
also: I really dig the extra light sensitivity of the Canon. I love OP's pics taken at f/3.5.
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
>>119055
Yea I can't really do that since I never actually buy anything at stores.
And I don't want to be that guy that returns everything haha

I get everything directly off Canon

How on earth do you get stuff directly off of them?

If only i was a Canonfag, i'd pretend to be your best buddy right now.

The Sigma is one of the rare lenses that's about equal in US price to Aus price, i buy most of my nikkors from the states and it's dirty cheap compared to here.

Are you the one anon whose lover works for Canon that posted on here awhile back?

Because something seems familiar about your style, remembering now the portrait that anon posted of his lover. And that girl you have that sepia-toned portrait of up in your Deviant Art gallery is staring to seem familiar, now that I think about it.
