you know what really grinds my gears

people taking a picture of themselves with the popup flash up but not firing it

i'll ignore the faggotry of taking your own picture like that but what's with the flash, do you think it looks cooler because it's up

and that's what really grinds my gears

your turn

I dunno, mine pops up automajically sometimes and doesn't even fire then I get lazy to put it back down unless I'm putting my camera down.

What grinds my gears is incorrect depictions of cameras in movies.

Like the other day I was watching a movie, can't remember what, but the guy had a Leica M6. Not only did he take like 3 shots without winding it (along with the sound of an SLR mirror slapping), but each time there was a flash from the brightline illumination window. huh

gg special effects

I forget what movie it was, but I saw a movie a while back in which a proud father took several shots of his daughter before realizing the lens cap was on... while using an SLR.

Also, on an the Scrubs episode "My Lips Are Sealed", the Janitor keeps making mirror-slap noises with his voice when taking pictures. When asked why, he responds "Oh. Well, cause my camera doesn't make a real sound, and it's more fun that way."

Unfortunately, the prop they used was an SLR. His camera *would* make those noise if he were actually taking pictures.

i posted that^

one time some dude with a nikon approached me, i had my 24-105 f/4 L IS and he asked me what kind of "zoom" it was

i told him it's a 24-105, and he goes, oh 105? mine is 200mm

i didn't say anything

yea, at the end of Sky Captain and the Epic Long Title the chick has one last exposure left, and uses it to take a shot of Jude Law, and it's very awwwwww until he tells her the lens cap is on.

Problem: the Argus C3 she's using doesn't cock the shutter and wind the film at the same time. All she has to do is take off the cap, recock the shutter and shoot again.

This completely discounts the part where you see through the viewfinder of her camera, and it's zooming in and out and going in and out of focus.

(1) the C3 is a rangefinder with a separate viewfinder window, so nothing changes in it
(2) they never made a zoom lens for the camera
(3) there have never been rangefinders with zoom viewfinder windows

oh well.

You know, on my camera at least, having the flash up means the flash is going to fire (although it's possible that that's not the case in the auto modes).

Could be that the photographer in that shot isn't the photographee. I.e., there's someone standing in front of him who took the actual picture, and the popup flash is up because he was taking pictures with flash.

Agreeing with this.

Pretty much everyone with their flash popped up has it firing.

Don't use the auto modes.
