/p/,I have a Nikon AF Nikkor 70-300mm lense which I used to use with my Nikon N65 (Manual) camera.I am now thinking about getting a (Digital) Nikon D40. I want to know if my old lense will fit the new camera's mount.I went to BestBuy and brought my lense the other day to see if it would fit the D40 and the employees told me they couldn't take the camera off the theft-prevention lock. Then I asked if I could try it on a new one from the box and they said they couldn't open a box to see if the lense fit because then "it would not be new anymore."So does anyone here know?
Is it the VR model? The 70-300 VR is the one that works fully with the D40.

thank you anon!
The 70-300mm f/4-5.6 G will mount and meter, but not autofocus. The 70-300mm f/4-5.6 ED will mount and meter, but not autofocus. The 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VR will mount, meter, and autofocus.
wait a second, it's not the VR.pic is my lense:<
>>92625That's the "G", it will not autofocus on a D40. It will, however, autofocus on a D80.
Get a D80. As the name suggests it's twice as awesome. That's a technical measurement.
>>92626Hmmm...That might make the D80 worth the extra money because:the price of a good comparable digital lense>the $$$ difference between a D40 and D80
>>92630Get the D80, it'll last you alot longer than the D40, by that i mean, except for showing off purposes you really wont need another DSLR for a very long time.
the d80 costs a lot more. but i think it's worth it!
