Sup /P/ i need to know what the best camera and settings is for taking close pictures of skin. The budget is about 18000 USD for a whole capture and archiving system.

Could you give us more information?

Like what this is all for and maybe an example of the sort of photograph you're going to be taking?

If you have to ask for the best 'settings' please have someone else who is more knowledgeable buy the equipment.

If you can't answer this question yourself, what are you doing spending $18000 on a camera system?
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
Dude, don't get professional advice from /p/. Seriously. Why on earth would you trust us? If you walk into a pro camera shop and tell them your budget, they will likely give you a far better estimate of what sort of kit you need.

You're gonna need some strobes, pocketwizards, a top-notch tripod and ball head, a good macro lens, and a fairly high resolution camera, at least 10MP. Since you mentioned a whole system, throw in an iMac and a firewire RAID for processing, storage and backup. And if it's super critical stuff, you'll want off-site backup in some data center.

If you have that kind of budget then you might consider the latest model pro 1Ds bodies from Canon. I know the Fuji S5 has the greater dynamic range, so depends on it works for you.

You'd want a good macro prime, no doubt about that. Probably proper studio gear as mentioned. also a SHIT TON OF LEARNING.

not for rental... the deposit without photographer's insurance is though.

but the short answer is yes.

make it this instead:

Heck, I'd just go with a rented hasselblad(large format, of course; do they make anything besides? I'm not sure), and drum scan each neg. That should be good, and under 18000 if I guesstimate right.

>>100290hasselblad(large format, of course; do they make anything besides?

Ow, my fucking brain.

>>100290
yep. hasselblad only makes large format cameras. yeah. you lose all internet cred lololol

I'd fuck your brains. <3

We don't even know what he needs, exactly. For all we know, $18,000 might be huge overkill and an S5IS and some hard drives might be all he needs. But I do imagine the best thing would be a 1Ds Mk. III and whatever the best macro lens out there that will mount on an EOS camera, with or without an adapter. It's skin, manual focusing should be easy.

>hasselblad(large format, of course; do they make anything besides?

Every camera Hasselblad makes is medium format, except the Hasselblad X-Pan and X-Pan II, which use 135 film to shoot panoramas.

Buy a Canon Powershot, spend the rest on hookers and blow. You'll not regret it.

Jesus Christ. Don't you have something better to do with $18,000? Like, put a down payment on a house or buy a car or something?

>Like, put a down payment

Lol debt.

My guess is OP works for a dermatologist and talked himself into responsibility for buying a new system before he realized he knows jack about doing so.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
You can buy dental, medical and similar camera kits. The OP might be suited to that if that was the case. He or she seems to have evaporated though.
