Any pro-tips on picking up a hasselblad?

I have a chance to get one for around a half-grand, which seems too good to be true.

Hi, OP.
Do you have a ton of fucking money to throw around?
Do you know how to develop your own $120 film?

If the answer to either of these questions is "No." then you shouldn't buy a Hasselblad.

>$120 film.

I lol'ed. That's like a steal for expired Kodachrome 200 on eBay, isn't it?

Getting a Hasselblad kit with an 80mm lens is pretty easy and reasonably affordable. It's any additional lenses that will kill you.

First of all become familiar with the various models. There really aren't any bad hasselblads, but there are ones that don't make the best daily shooters. The same goes for the lenses. C lenses will be the cheapest, but they're also the oldest, some are not multi-coated, and Hasselblad no longer services or stocks parts for the shutters. F lenses will only work on 2000/200 series bodies.

That said, if you live the US, the first step would be Craigslist. I recently bought a lot of Hasselblad equipment including a 501C/M body, CF 80mm, 3 film magazines, WLF, metered prism, and some other crap all in mint condition for $800. I then re-sold the metered prism and some other accessories I didn't want on ebay and now have a free 501C/M kit. Be patient, good deals will come along.

The next place is KEH.com. Bodies and magazines are cheap, finders and lenses are expensive. You can get a 500C/M kit for around 600 at the cheapest.

As for film, it's really not that expensive to shoot 120. You just have to modify your shooting habits if you're a digital baby and are used to the LOL I TAEK PIKTURE method of composing.

500 bucks seems right for certain kits. just do it. it's money better spent than on, say, a digital rebel or d40 or e420.
