If it was actually an 8-70mm lens I would probably switch to Sony. Or at least buy a minolta-to-EOS adapter.

Anyway everyone here hates sony so you will get a lot of shit responses. The A200 is a decent SLR, aimed much more at consumers and soccer moms than pros, but it does the job.
f/4.5 to 5.6 is the maximum aperture of the lens at 75mm and 300mm. It's a "slow" lens meaning you can't shoot very well in dim light. Does the A200 have the steadyshit? If yes then it doesn't matter as much.
For 600 bucks, getting a body with lenses from 18 to 300mm is a pretty damn good deal if you ask me. Just consider that you'll be taking most of your shots at night with flash.
