Medium format Anonymous
Hey /p/, I got a question for you film users.
What's a good brand/kind of medium format film to use? So far I've used a roll of 400 Tmax and I'm currently using a roll of 400 Portra, but I really have no idea on whats a good type. Please educate!

It's rare to see anyone using medium format film cameras. Good luck with that(not sarcastic). I'd like to see some scans too of any work you feel happy showing off.

Not *that* rare. There are a few people shooting medium format on here (pic related).

Unfortunately, I can be of pretty much no help to you 'cause that's pretty much all I've used, too. The only film I've used other than TMax and Portra 400nc in my TLR is Velvia 100 (again, pic related) and that didn't work out terribly well because the local place I got my film developed sucks ass (pic still related--came out all blueish).

But if you're taking pictures of things other than people and you like color and can find a place to get it developed, Fuji Velvia is pretty awesome. Especially Velvia 50.

Thanks. I didn't know they made velvia for MF, I'll have to give that a try. I've got a roll of it in 35mm that I've been meaning to shoot, but I got a DSLR recently, and I've been using that a lot. But! I dropped off my TMax today, I should be able to get scans by this weekend.

it looks like they accidentally cross processed the Velvia.

pretty much any professional film is made in both 135 and 120 formats.
I mainly shoot Portra in my TLR's because its a little more flexible it get prints. But having a 6x6 colour slide is pretty cool.

they make every film for 120 that they make for 35mm. furthermore, fujifilm and kodak have been making film for decades (kodak for a century), so you're seeing the end product of pretty much the entire history of photographic chemistry.

neither fuji nor kodak (ilford too) make a bad professional film. try them all.

Most often I use Ilford Delta 100 or Fuji Provia. Velvia is very nice, but less versatile so I don't use it too often. E100G is OK if I can't find Provia. Porta is my most hated line of film, particularly 400UC. I always seem to wind up with free rolls of it and try it out to see if I still hate it, and the answer is always yes.

400UC isn't a Portra film, it is of its own line; ULTRA COLOR
