Hey /p/, lookin' a bit of advice. Goin' slr soon for the first time and lookin' for a sensibly priced entry level one of course. I could get a D40 now for £270, or wait till the end of next month and pay £500 for the 1000d. Is it really worth all that extra cash and the wait? Opinions, thoughts, reflections will be much appreciated.
And if no one cares about that, anyone like the photo I took?

me likes your pic, but you should resize it next time before posting in order to have a smaller file size and a better resolution to view the pic on the screen

yeah I'm hearin' this a lot, but I refuse to get a used camera, it can only end in tears.

lol

No, used cameras are perfectly fine. Buying used is a good idea with most things.

seconded... theres no point getting a BRAND NEW entry level.

Just pick a brand, nikon or canon and get a used entry level or even a D70.

Save your money for lenses (and other things that you can use forever like flashes)

I'm getting a second chance offer to buy a 2nd hand D50 body only for £180 on ebay. Should I go for it?? Can anyone suggest a good, but cheap, lens I could get for it after I got it?

please somebody help me, he keeps emailing me lol

the 50mm f/1.8 is cheap and exceptional.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm going to study photography at university, so instead of buying a entry level SLR I may out-grow, i'm going to go for a D80, which will last me through the two years before aswell as through university. And after some saving (OK, well, a lot), i'll buy the 70-300mm VR lens.

I just got into the DSLR scene about 5 months ago.

I bought the Canon XTI. and a very nice 17-55 2.8/f EFS IS USM lens. I was also told by a few people to go with a entry level camera, and invest in good glass. I'm glad I did.

there is one thing I didnt know before I purchased the XTI and that was about live view. the xti dont have it but the new xsi does.

Live view would be nice for a time lapse & remote shoot program i got on my computer, so that I could see what the camera is viewing before I adjust settings & take shots on the computer.

other than lacking live view I am happy with my decision. I will upgrade the body once I feel i reached the limitations of it, but for now its perfect.

and the lens I'm very happy with. takes great shots as well as very nice low light shots. I see this lens as a keeper forever.

I love my D50, don't plan on upgrading for a while

until everyone uses full frame and your $1,000 plastic lens is useless lol

the only plastic on it is the focusing/zoom rings.

>>208296a few years down the road I would still have the XTI

enjoy 30,000 shutter actuations

I dont even know what that means, so I guess its not time to consider an upgrade yet..

you only took part of my sentence anyhow. Even if i did upgrade to a newer body I would still have the XTI I currently have to keep the lens on.

My next lens will be one of the telephoto L's though

it means your mirror, shutter or sensor will usually crap out after 30,000 shots
