or wants to use the lens as a near-circular fisheye on film/FX format?

(Although he's still a retard for sawing the hood without disassembling the lens)

I really, really want this lens. :(

I quite want a super wide prime for 35mm.

The sony 11-18 is technically a crop lense but from 13 onwards it covers the full 35mm frame, winner!

Prime, PRIME.

The new Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 has better image quality than the Canon 14mm f/2.8 prime. In fact, it may very well be the best lens Nikon has ever made. Has anyone seen that crazy ass D3 promotional shot of the motorcyclist? ISO 6400, 14mm, 1/5000 @ f/5.6 or something. It's out of control amazing.

/r/ that pic, haven't seen it.

The test fron 16-9 was heavily flawed, proven in a 25 page thread on DPR.

But for the record, yes the 14-24 is really good.

Fair enough. The jury's in though, and Nikon makes some stellar zooms. Welcome to the future. :D

Excuse the shitty quality on this, but I couldn't find a jpg, so I just screen-capped from the flash deal Nikon has on its website. You get the idea.

haha iw as think the same thing... why wouldnt you just take it apart first... if he slips he'll saw and scratch the fuck out of the front element.

i think we're getting to the point where image quality of zooms are getting on the fixed focal lengths.

The only real benefit apart from size that fixed focals offer over zooms these days is probably speed. A 14-24mm 1.4 would choke godzilla

FFLs offer an entirely different way of working, though. Having a set of a few focal lengths to get to know intimately, and the whole way it forces one to zoom with his feet, etc. And to be honest, zooms just feel plain weird to me.

Some multiple-length-but-not-zoom lenses would be nice, like the Leica Tri-Elmars. A 24-28-50 would be perfect on a DX sensor. The advantages of both types, except for speed.

Oh, and flare. Less elements will always equal less flare.

enjoy your 2.8 bokeh

yeah i'll agree that, i remember my trip in china forced to stick with my 50mm 1.4 for the sake of convenience, it did make my compose better shots i felt and i got used to knowing EXACTLY how many steps i would need to get the shot that i wanted.

Now that i primarily shoot with the 17-55... it's weird when i check the exif and see a 33mm shot... i guess i got too used to the classic focal lengths. It's not that big of a deal in the end realy. The Tri-elmars just wouldn't sell on DSLRs.

Remember Leicas are a very niche market. Comsumer DSLRs is aimed at pure profit.
