>> elf_man !!DdAnyoDMfCe

It's okay, but the similar two on your stream are better, light looks nicer and the background is more interesting.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>113430

Yeah, i just needed an extra one to post.

And for that pic, I was on the ground. She was 15 feet off the ground. Fun thing about this site is you can't really attach any lights to any of the equipment, since you aren't supposed to be on the equipment in the first place (oops!) so you have to make do with what's there.
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
I'll pick on the negative. :P

You need to think of fill light and having something for it handy. Even a hotshoe flash would help a little like in the case of that second one. It can also add that attractive catch light in the eyes.

The third one I don't like the framing and the light was flat and uninteresting. She looks much better in the first one. There's also a big gap above her head that I don't like.

With the second one her face is dark and her legs are bright white and it doesn't look right to me. The composition feels unbalanced or something.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>113427
>AC- Does she wear the empire waist better than Julie?
Not really. Kinda makes her look lumpy and formless in that particular pose. Nice legs, but the dress makes her look like she's trying to hide everything else. I just really don't like empire waists on anyone. Sorry.

>>113424
I like this a lot more than the similar two in your Flickr stream. Something about the expression on her face rubs me the wrong way in those.

>>113422
This is my favorite still. I think mainly because this is the only one in which she's smiling. She's sort of trying to look aloof and sultry in them all, and I think she'd look a lot better if she went for happy..
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
Yeah, the smile probably helps a lot.
>> elf_man !!DdAnyoDMfCe

>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j

In this case, I have no where to clamp them. I can't mess with the machinery anymore than I already have by putting the model on it.
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>113492

Are they watching you like a hawk or something? If you can sneak a grown woman onto the machinery, I'd expect you can clamp on a small light for a minute. It isn't any more permanent an addition than the woman.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>113493

True, but there's really no place for me to clamp it to. and yeah, they are watching us like crazy- everything's historically protected. We basically got her up there for 5 minutes, hide on the other side when someone drove by in a tractor, then finished and got her off immediately.

Bugger. Oh well. Looks like you did the best you could then.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
your subjects, poses, settings and composition are all great, but these outdoor portraits of yours are all held back by harsh contrast ratios. Fill flash is okay, but you have to take the flash off-camera and remote trigger it if you want it to look good, which gets even more expensive. so either

1) i've recommended this to you before as anon, but get a 5-in-1 reflector. Pros use them all the time. They're not super-expensive, they weigh about three ounces, they don't require batteries or triggers. All you have to do is use your tripod, 10-second delay, and move your reflector to the desired position, or get some assistant to hold it for you. 5-in-1 has a white side, silver side, gold side (my favorite for portraits), a black side, and a central mesh core that you can use as a scrim to completely eliminate shadows on your subject.

2) make your own reflector. white cardboard + aluminum foil = $0.23. Or use a three dollar windshield shade. You won't get the warming side that the 5-in-1 has, or the scrim, and you can't fold it up into a 6-inch disk, but it's fukken cheap.

one way or the other, you've got to get some light into those shadows, because you're not doing those jawlines any justice.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
>>113499

shit, i wrote this while you wrote

>>113497

so i'll redux. get some light into those shadows, any way you can.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>113500

It's fine, I know i at least tried. I do have a reflector and I tried to use it, but the sun was just being a PITA for me that day. T hat's why i ended up taking her into the covered barn and shooting her in there, where the light was consistent. I always bring my reflector with me, but the position of the sun wants them to show up the other way. Urg.

Either way, everything in here is really helpful so far. I'll try to keep it in mind on my next beach shoot.

>>113423

I'd like to see more of this model/set.

She looks like she's muffintopping a little there and it's distracting my penis. Maybe just find poses where her pudge doesn't spill out like in pic #1.

Also, her tat is pretty boring.
>> BUTTERFLY IS A DOUBLE NIGGER
>>113422

To be honest with you, the light in this photo is not very good. You might have used too much depth of field as well. Unfortunately, the girl is just too fat to look good in this type of clothing.

Also, please photoshop out the insipid tattoo near her right ankle. It looks horrible and makes her look like a fat skank instead of just fat.

It's just us out having fun to take pictures & practice poses, expressions, lighting, etc for me. I'm still a beginner on this side of the modelling world, so it's good to get feedback.

Whether or not you like it, this girl is fat. Try and call her thin, it doesn't work. She's chunkier than average and you can see it in her face, the fucking pudge bulging out of the corset, the flub drooping off her arms, and, OH YEAH - the fucking belly. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying she's the fattest fucking bitch on 4chan, but trying to claim that she isn't fat is hilariously disingenuous.

More than that, she's a horrible model. There is a reason that modelling is a profession. Not everybody can do it.

>>114075

The model is a part of your photos and thus is a legitimate target for critique. She could be made to work, but not in this setting.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s

Hey Liska, the composition on these photos are great, but the shine from the light really stands out. I have a couple suggestions.

Shoot early morning, late afternoon, or overcast. This way her skin will look more natural, and the shine won't appear.

Honey, if you think she's fat you better go outside more. 1- She's agency represented and a well known model in the area. 2- This is NOT fat. She has a beautiful figure (IMO). Yeah, it may be the corset that's making her look bigger than she really is. Empire waist too, but she's not overweight in the least. I have swimsuit photos and nudes to prove it. Neither of which you are going to see. She is a beautiful CURVY woman. Not fat. 3- No, you DON'T have the right to critique my models. I'm here for a photo critque, and you're a faggot for thinking it gives you a good excuse to critique her. I'm probably overreacting but people like you tick me off.

Without getting into the stupid debate about the model, saying "critique my photo but not the model I chose to be in it" doesn't jive. Choosing the right subject/model is just as important, if not more, for any type of photography as choosing color or black and white.

She doesn't bother me, but something about the model (regardless of what it is) bothering someone is no different than some part of a landscape bothering someone critiquing a landscape photograph.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j

There's a difference in properly critiquing the model and going "ZOMGFATWOMAN!" I've posted bigger models in here before and not once did whomever that poster is decide to come out. he's obviously a troll, but still ticks me off.

You know what, maybe it's that I'm not used to be surrounded by fat bitches, but really, this model is FAT. You can fucking see it everywhere on her goddamn body. Idiot.

Also, if you think that choosing the right model is unimportant to the photoshoot, you're a far shittier photographer than you could possibly imagine.

Ok sure, maybe you like fat bitches and are probably thinking to 'tap that.' Doesn't change the basic problem. FAT GIRL IS FAT.

Also, the clothes are unflattering, the tattoo is lame, the composition is shit, the light is harsh, the depth of field is too shallow, the white-balance is off, the background is distracting, what more do you want?

You could wring out a sweaty taint onto film and get a better and more artistic effect. You are a shitty photographer who takes pride in shooting fat models in bad positions in inappropriate places.
