fucking LOL @ cameras that run on AA batteries
>> Anonymous
>>271601
i actually find that to be very practical
>> Grebbin !!M4ehTJKOnNf
>>271603
It's practical but quite a bit less voltage than Li-Ion batteries, the Li-ion takes up less space, provides more current, lighter and possibly more capacity due to the higher voltage.

AAs are good for flashes but I'm wondering why they don't use Li-ion batteries for flash now...

4 NiMH 1850 mAh rechargeable batteries I would imagine is pretty good.
>> Anonymous
>>271609

maybe 3 years ago

standard mah now is like 2500 and they have 2800
>> Anonymous
>>271606
i know the 450D uses a Canon 1050mAh Li-Ion batter but i think you can purchase an adapter to use AAs also.

i did notice that the 450D doesnt have image stabilization. is this a big deal in dslrs?
>> Grebbin !!M4ehTJKOnNf
>>271609
I have about 60 rechargeable AAs, I have 16 of the powerex 2700, which on my D700/D300 grips they can last about 1000 shots of raw, which is pretty good performance, although if you were to put a Li-ion battery in there, it'll last longer and is lighter as well.

>>271614
Hope you're not trolling... 450D needs the battery grip to use AAs and no it doesn't have in-camera stabilisation.
>> Anonymous
>>271623
yeah i got all that i can navigate the internets for specs, but does image stabilization help that much in a dslr is my question
>> Anonymous
>>271630

How useful it is depends on what you are doing and the conditions.
>> Grebbin !!M4ehTJKOnNf
>>271630
Depends on what you're doing, for motorsports, no, it's not very useful, you need fast shutter to 'stop' the cars anyway so better off using a monopod. For catwalks, no, motion blur at low shutter speed and your photos of models will come out as ghosts.

Stabilisation is good for static objects.

Li-ion are actually NOT so good for high current applications, (Li-poly would be better). so you could use Li-ion for flashes but it would most probably result in a longer recharge time. NiMh are excellent for high current applications, with 4 eneloop AAs I can flash my 580exII on full power almost continuously.

I'm not the OP, but looking at the same camera. Is this a decent deal? I'm thinking the lenses are probably crap quality, but for a newbie, is it good enough?

No replies :( Heres a pic of the stuff if you dont want to click the link. Its selling for a total of $844
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>272539
No. Two of those lenses are low quality, two (the screw-in ones) are barely worthy of the name 'lens', and there is no wide angle there worth speaking of. The rest of the package is similarly low-end crap. And since it's a KISS instead of a Rebel, if you're anywhere other than Japan, there's a good chance you'll be missing out on the warranty.

So I'd recommend going to a reputable dealer and getting the XSi + 50mm/1.8 + 18-55 IS instead and get your own tripod and bag and memory cards and whatnot.

sony a100/a200/a300/a350/a700/a900.

I tried to post earlier but it failed somehow.

750 or so will get you the XSi with the Canon 18-55 and the 70-300.

850 will get you either a D60 with the 18-55 and the 55-200, both VR, or, better, if you go refurb for the body and lenses (Nikon factory refurbs are really nice, can't tell that they're not normal brand-new except for the boxes), you can have a D80 and the same two lenses for about 830, which is what I'd go with in the situation.

for your first camera don't waste so much money
you are going to end up throwing your camera under your bed anyways
if you have at least a minimum interest in taking pictures
get out and take good pictures with a cheap camera
THEN you can get a good camera to start with like the D60 or D80

i always recommend buying a 'last year's mid-class' vs a 'this year's entry-class'

as far as internal operations go, anything under 5000 actuations is indistinguishable from new

for example, a used canon 20d/30d is >> a 450d.
for nikon, a d70 /d80 is still better than a d60.

never spend too much money on your first body. if you have 1000 dollars, spend no more than 500 dollars on a body and spend the rest on a decent lens. the lens determines the quality of the shot, not the body.

you have to consider than the body is just an ends to a means, the lens is an investment. the body will be thrown away one day. a lens can last you a lifetime.
