OK, /p/, so I hear prime lenses are great, and I want something that's ... well, the zoom lens I have distorts things, and I don't want to have to correct every damned photo.
I have a Nikon D80...
So, prime lenses... I see 2 I like,

Nikon 50 mm f/1.4D AF Lens
Nikon 50 mm f/1.8D Nikkor AF Lens

Which would you recommend? I'd imagine teh 1.4D, even though its about 3x the price.. is it worth the price increase?

It's worth the price increase if you need the extra stop of light. If not, they're essentially the same.

I heard from the owners that AF 50/1.4 kinda sucks when fully open, and is still inferior to AF 50/1.8 when stopped down. So don't bother with it unless you absolutely need shooting at f/1.4.

Also, the 50/1.4 lens on a D80 doesn't make the viewfinder brighter compared to 50/1.8, because at apertures so large the small DX-sized mirror acts as a second diaphragm.

i've owned both, unless you've got money to burn (or a good insurance company like me) get the f/1.8

dxo - corrects automatically every photo.

from my experience, they are equal, there is no way you can tell the difference from both, and as for wide open at f/1.4, its honestly not that bad as ppl make it out to be, there are many many more worse lenses out there.

even dxo can't salvage photos made with nikons.

I use and love the f/1.8 I've never had a problem with it. Don't drop the extra cash for that f/1.4
