I take it you live in the UK? The land of rain and fog. Suck it up for now and hope for a lucky break. Or do indoors work. You'll have to wait until February or March before you get your winter wonderland.

I fucking love the rain!

Take some rain pictures. The rain doesn't stop people from shopping, so try to get some pictures of people with bags on shiny streets.

How do you deal with risking your gear getting wet and the element getting rain drops on it? Any favourite items home made or otherwise you use for those situations?

as long as you don't drop it in a puddle, it should be fine. I had mine out in the mud and rain the past weekend

Use a car you won't get wet in a car you get there alote faster in a car then walking in the rain with the stuff you got.

I just use an umbrella.
However, I've got a splashproof lens not long ago, so when I get my hands on an equally splashproof body, the umbrella won't be needed anymore.

I had mine out when it was drizzling and sprinkling, I'd just pull it in and out of my bag when necessary and the little bit of moisture didn't hurt it at all. You're probably fine unless it's a downpour, or you do something silly like change lenses in the rain.
