the huge blur that is his feet is too distracting, focus is off, background is distracting, not really digging the position of the camera for this shot.

OP Here.

Focus is off? i never noticed, cheers for the heads up on that one..

I agree I should have opened up the focus to include more of his body (The blur is indeed a bit distracting), kind of liked the background though.

Heres another shot from the same shoot, Any better? (needs color correction though)

Drop your ISO to 100 and drop shutter speed, close aperture a stop or two.

His face blends into the background too much so the colored chairs are distracting.

Thanks :)

There seems to be crap loads i need to learn!

Is there any kind of book or something i could download/buy that will cover the basics of this for me?

a) rule of threes, plus, blondes are arrogant models- bone truth.

b) fucking exposure, this photo looks like my mother ran it over

c) boring as hell.

d) hold your camera level.

e) try harder, or at least try- this is cellphone point and click.

last, the yellow cast is because you are forcing your camera to work for light like a starving dog works for bone gristle. get a flash and give the poor beast a rest.

The OP isn't very good, but it's nothing technical. Just boring composition. The focus might be off by a smidge, but it's still sharp and close enough where it counts.

>>190639
This one would be good with a little pushing.

The other one I gave you feedback on in your last thread for it.

did i lie about blondes?

i swear to god it's genetic, point a camera at a pasty white and they snap to attention, and the flagpole is ME,ME,ME.
>> Anonymous
>>190667

too bad, because they take nice photos.

>>190686

Cant comment on your blonde argument :P

His not a model, just a student we roped into it.. But if you want to know, he was a good sport about it all, and made the day a dam good laugh :P

Levels helped a lot, but personally I dig the sorta off white balance of the original.

The guy's hand in the lower left-hand corner getting cut off and being so blurred is problematic. Best to have had him remove it from the camera's view altogether.

On the other hand, the guy's dangling fingers out the other side do help.

The model also seems a little off in his facial expression, but what are you trying to do with these shots?
>> Anonymous
My experiences with shooting posed portraits of people don't show blondes as being more inclined to do bad, cocky poses than anyone else. I've never shot anyone like that except a friend of mine who's got black hair and couldn't turn out a good pose to save his life. Luckily, he's photogenic for candids.

nothing, really. it is what it is. you can fuck with it, but improvement is relative.

this picture is true. not that it's good, or fucking art, for god's sake, but it is accurate.

you can look at this and say, " i took a good photo, but it is worthless."

that's life, etc.

Thanks for the imput.

The idea of the shoot was a part of the groups project. The idea was to see how famous (localy anyway) they could make a normal student in the space of one month, using photos, events (having him come out of clubs been surrounded by fake paparazzi and so on), and having people talk about him around campus.

The shoot was just to get some photos to put on his profile and for them to have some shots of him for the evaluation ect.

OP here again.

Right, think ive got what i needed from this topic, thanks alot guys...

So far I will be remembering;

Don't cut of body parts (parts of hands ect.),

Invest in a bloody tripod to keep the camera level,

Drop the Fstop a few steps to bring more of the subject into focus,

Don't have distracting colors in the background,

Try and make them more interesting.

Is that it? or did i miss something?

Thanks alot for the input guys!

well, that came out a bit harsh, zowie.

i meant to say, that photo, of the young gentleman in the chair, while imperfect, is technically adept, and even if it's not immortal art, is a worthwhile endeavour.

daresay it'll make it up on the wall of the art corridor in your school/uni/college/dungeon with plaudits, should you care to apply for same.

fix the fucking yellow, tho, would you? it's horrible.

>Don't cut of body parts (parts of hands ect.),

This isn't always true. Done thoughtfully, it often helps.

>Invest in a bloody tripod to keep the camera level,

You should own a tripod, but some people like working with them for everything, some people like working with them for some things, and some people like working with them for nothing. Own one for when you need it, but don't be compelled to work with it when you don't if you don't want to.

>Drop the Fstop a few steps to bring more of the subject into focus,

I for one don't mind the shallow depth of field on these. Wouldn't make it better or worse.

Thanks :)

Seems /p/ is in a kind mood today lol

1. too much background
2. get those feet out of his face
3. get your horizon straight or go more angled, this is too in-between
4. engage with your model. talk to him, tell jokes, throw shit at him, whatever, but make him emote more. he just looks like a dude sitting on the floor right now.
5. try either some fill flash or a reflector card, he looks a little flat and doesn't pop.

this image has a lot of potential.

or if you ARE going to cut off bodyparts, don't cut them off at the joints A big big no no!
>> Anonymous
>>190940

The best place to cut off a body part is at the joint. If you slip a knife in between the bones at the joint, slice round to sever the tendons and then twist it will pop off that part cleanly.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>190961

Not that kind of cutting :P
