If possible, make it a stream of water, focus lock on that, and then turn it into drops. Another trick is to focus lock on where the drops are coming from and track the drops as they fall.

Thanks alot, will remember that.

Focus Type Auto

Obvious mistake. Set it on manual and try and focus yourself.

Focus using distance scale on the lens
Set aperture to 16 to get a XBOX HUGE depth of field, so precise focusing doesn't matter

You need xbox HUEG amounts of light to make up for the fast shutter speed, so f/16 will be unattainable

that's pretty accurate. the best thing to do is take a small stick or something and line it up with the path of the falling drop (if it's a consistently falling thing). focus on that and just hope for good timing when you hit the shutter release. as for focus, F/16 will be hard if it's close up unless you have really good lighting.

Yep same thing here.
Manual setting with macro focus (automatic obviously) and with the slow synchro flash setting.
This was fun way to test the Canon's compacts abilities.

Still new to this, but with slow synchro flash you mean flash w/ a low shutter speed right?

Use manual controls. Strobes if you can.
