I actually prefer crop. I'll take a a minor bit of more noise and a minor bit of less DR for a minor more bit of more depth of field.

See, the thing is, with a full-frame camera, you can bump the ISO up 1.6 stops and drop the aperture 1.6 stops and get the same effect. And then, if you really need the photons rather than the DoF, you can open up the aperture and ISO at the same time.
