450D, /p/. Things I like:
-Spot metering
-Live histogram
-Viewfinder ISO information

I don't like:
-SD/SDHC only

And hey, the Pentax K20D can do 21 MOTHERFUCKING FRAMES PER SECOND AT 1.6MP.

The only really interesting news out of PMA so far. Not a new classic camera or anything, but one step closer to the possible future phasing out of the whole mirror thing. Sounds like the closest non-DSLR to a DSLR so far, except that one Sony thing a few years back that had an APS-C sized sensor.

Dammit. I want a 5D MKII! I'm not too worried about the rebel line at this point

(And SD media, seriously, WTF?!?)
>> Liquefied !!CF1+3tSFCce
Still waiting for the next 5D.

SDCard is a pretty cool guy eh, he's small and awesome and dosent affraid of anything.

also, no new 5d at pma - enjoy your wait FFfag
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
It had to happen. Not too bad. I think the 450D is what everyone was expecting. It seems to almost be a repeat of the last cycle. A decent set of upgrades.

The changeover to SD cards might be a good thing for those wanting to use those cheap wireless cards.

I wonder if this means that the 5D successor will not materialise at all?

I was surprised by the XSi, because I didn't think there was enough room for it without treading on top of Canon's higher models.

Although the image quality is probably a lot better on the 40D, this new Rebel has a higher pixel count. Even though people that know better will realize that the higher image quality (read: less noise) is more important, it will still be frustrating to 40D owners.

I'm hoping a 5D replacement will still be announced.

Someone also claimed that the print button now has a dual function. Holy shit. About time. I could forgive Canon almost anything if they allow that print button to be programmable or have dual (USEFUL) functions. I don't know if that's really the case yet though.

Almost every cheap camera has SD media now. It's easier to use, pins don't bend, plus most notebooks/PDAs have SD slots. And lower speed of SD isn't a major factor in entry-level cameras.
>> Anonymous
The specs on the canon site say it can have a wireless interface, so im guessing the change to SD card was to support the wireless SD cards and download images directly to your computer via wifi.

2/3" sensor is better than 1/1.8" ones on most superzooms, but still fails hard when compared even to the lamest 4/3 olympus.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
Aww. Canon's dropping CompactFlash? Weak sauce.

>>117324
Like I said last time this came up, the XTi/400D was out a long time before they updated the 30D to the 40D.

Too bad they didn't use the kit lens for sample pictures.

Now,waiting for some detail test of this 450D. Also I'm wondering how much would canon like for his new baby.

>>pins don't bend
I've been using ATA Flash/PCMCIA and CF cards for a decade+ and have never bent a pin on a laptop, camera, reader, foo.
Where are all these hamfisted fucks bending all these pins from?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA

I notice they're making the 18-55 IS the kit lens now. IN ACCORDANCE WITH PROPHECY.

Did Canon actually beat Nikon to actually making the kit lens stabilized? I know Nikon said they were going to, but I don't know if they ever actually got around to doing so...
>> Anonymous
i would take the pentax k20d
>> Anonymous
>>117416
That's only if you compare budget cards. But the new UDMA CompactFlash cards are not yet rivaled by SDHC (30 MB/s and more).
>> Anonymous
>>117380
Well, of all Canon SLRs, 450D is the most suitable for hamfisted fucks, so it makes sense to add some foolproof-ness :D
>> Anonymous
>>117418
Wow, those look very impressive... But (good) SD cards will be fine for consumer cameras like this.
>> Anonymous
>>117381
Yay, no more shitty kit lenses from Canon.

Also, everyone seems to forget that 450D improves on two other weak points of 350D/400D - the viewfinder is reportedly less shitty and there's now more space for fingers between grip and lens (previous ones were quite uncomfortable to hold with a fat lens like Sigma 30/1.4 attached)

PMA is only next week.

Is this leaked info or advanced release by Canon prior to the expo?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>117425
Advanced release. They've got webpages up about it and everything.

Apparently the kit version will be £679.99 / €999.99 in Europe, but $899 in the US... we're being ripped off even MORE than usual :D
>> Anonymous
>>117417

Is Nikon actually going to call it the D60? That was the name of Canon's 2nd digital SLR (first was D30), so I always assumed Nikon was deliberately stepping around it.
>> Anonymous
>>117456
dpreview says:

List price (US)
• Body only: $799
• Kit: $899 (with 18-55 mm IS lens)

List price (EU)
• Body only: €749
• Kit: €849 (with 18-55 mm IS lens)
>> Anonymous
>>117461
That might be not be including tax or something, just going off the only set of prices i've seen including a UK price... however, €849 is still $1250 approx. so $350 more than the US retail price
>> Anonymous
>>117469
In most of the EU you still can order it from the US without much hassle, though. I doubt the import tax and shipping will add up to more than half of price difference.
>> Anonymous
>>117456
Remember that US prices don't include taxes. Not saying that we're not ripped...
>> Anonymous
Doesnt it only shoot 6 RAWs in one burst as opposed to the 400D's 10?
>> Anonymous
>>117478
I guess they bumped up the resolution and bitdepth, but forgot to add more memory.
>> Anonymous
>>117481

Saves them from having to change that component, so saves more money. Upgrading to the 40D might risk eating into its sales more.
>> Anonymous
Man, SD cards?

I hope the next 40D will have CF and SD to make the transition easier if they're moving to SD across the line.
>> Anonymous
I don't get it. Why the hate against SD cards?

Personally I love the fact that they did go with SD cards. I can stick an SD card right into my laptop.
>> Anonymous
>>117664
SD cards are fucking slow.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>117664
They're slower, they've got lower maximum capacities, and they're not what I've got a bunch of.

(That last one is the one that actually matters. I've got over 10GB of CompactFlash cards, but something like 64M worth of SD, which means that I'm going to have to buy all new cards when I upgrade to something that uses SD)
>> Anonymous
>>117735
>I've got over 10GB of CompactFlash cards
Which cost like sixty bucks total by today's prices. I don't see how this is a huge problem.
>> Anonymous
>>117677
Not "fucking" slow when we're talking about casual shooters. My old camera takes like four seconds to write RAW to my old CF card and I rarely have problems because of that; 450D with a decent SD card will probably be twice as fast.
>> Anonymous
>>117749
Because its an old camera.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>117746
Because I'm fucking cheap and lazy. Obviously.
