nikon L5 Anonymous
I saw this camera at the store and am thinking of buying one with a 2 or 4 gb sd-card.

Does anyone have one or have used a Nikon L5?
I really like the 5x optical zoom.

But should I buy a one of the mid-high end Canons instead? Or put some more money and instead buy a Nikon d40?

What sort of photographs are you looking to take?

If you want the best image quality or want to take pictures in tricky situations (e.g., fast moving action, low light, etc), go with the D40. If you just want to take the occasional snapshot and value the ability to stick your camera in your pocket to have with you all the time (and don't want to nerd out and bring a big-ass camera bag with you wherever you go, like I do), get the L5.

I currently have a canon that's a few years old. Most of my photographs are of friends and family indoors or out in the garden.

This L5 camera has 5x optical zoom, and it's 7mp. Our local photo store offered me to buy it with a 2gb sd-card for $250.

What I look most for in a camera is to be able to take really sharp pictures. If I photograph a pet I want to be able to print out a small poster. My old canon takes amazingly sharp pictures, but the camera is getting a bit outdated and it's age and frequent outdoor use is already causing problems with stuck buttons.
