lolexperimenting.

Unfortunately, my cat knocked the wine glass down and busted it about 10 minutes later, so no better attempts today.

Wow, sweet effect! I gotta keep this water refraction thing in mind...

needs better lighting

needs a cleaner glass

needs cloning out dust spots

needs more sharpness

good try though

hence experimenting. I was going to do it in a better setup later this week (waiting on a strobe) but my stupid cat broke the glass.

You left out what bothers me the most though...because I shot it on my kitchen table with no control of the lighting or reflections, the wine glass is covered it window reflections and all kinds of unwanted reflections. They can fuck right off.

Oh well, though, it was still fun to do.

Don't listen to this faggot, I really like the picture. I just wish it was lit better.

he's right, though. I agree 100% with everything he said, that's why I made it clear that it was a test-shot and not a finished product. Now I have to find another wine glass because this broken one may be a good subject, but it can't exactly hold liquid and therefore no fun.

different crop and removed some of the reflections. Not a great shop job, just getting an idea of what I want to do later. Do you prefer it with a few, simple reflections or more reflections? (not detailed reflections like OP, those were uncontrolled)

Few, simple reflections. The key to this shot is the simplicity. You don't want weird complex shit going on with the reflections

that was my take, too. I found another wine glass (slightly different shape though, it's sort of tulip-shaped) that I'm going to repeat this with later tonight under more controlled lighting. If I get time, at least.

1000 times worse than op to me

quality wise, definately. Most of the shooping in the second version is obvious because it's just a temporary picture.

Two things to keep in mind when shooting reflective objects. 1 - understand and control what the reflective surface "sees." 2 - Light what the surface sees according to what you want.

Also, see attached pic - this book is excellent reading for coming to a better understanding of how lighting actually works.

worst picture I've ever seen on /p/

I keep forgetting to set this up again. Fuckkk.

I prefer black and white, I was thinking about mixing in some red in at least one shot though.

I don't know how it would turn out, either, but I would like to do a shot similar to the OP except with red dye in the water on the left side. It would probably be overboard, though.
