Took this the other day for a photography class assignment on stopping movement and depth of field.

Now that i look at it, there is still movement even though the shutter was set to 1000

Err, scratch that... shutter was 250
>> Anonymous
Yeah you'll need a shutter speed of around 9001, just a bit over 9000.

If your doing splash photography forget the shutter speed unless you have 10k to drop on an incredably acurate computer controlled 1/10,000 of a second shutter. Instead just use a flash and and an audio controller.... Pic related. Canon powershot with an audo controlled flash... Equiptment cost... about 560 including camera...

Goes for about the price he quoted but offers MUCH more capabilities. It's everything a person doing these sort of photos could need

The time machine lists for $325. Still requires a flash, sensors and all that jazz. It is amazing yes but not the cheapest/most effective way to go. The cheapest most effective controler is from http://www.quaketronics.com/flashkit/index.html

No it is not the best... by far... but it only sets you back about a hundred bucks.. The flash I use is a DJ Strobe II It's not exactly a photography flash but it will give you a 1/64,000 of a second flash.

lol easy and cheap way.

put camera into fastest drive mode(for me, 5fps...)

put cam on a tripod and use a remote and as the drop leaves the tap or whatever hold the shutter down for as long as you feel fit.

this is how i did it in the above image using black food colouring on a knife held at the right time under a fast dripping tap into a stainless sink.

>>Up the ISO. The 5D can take it.
I would also note he could probably open up the aperature a couple of steps. He shot at f/4 at 105mm.

The photo he took was for an assignment, in which he filled the brief.. I suspect he wasnt aiming for the perfect photo?
'$4k' well spent.

Best way to cap motion is the way Harold Edgarton did it, keeping your shutter open in a pitch black room and then popping a flash. 1/60,000 sec.
