Bokeh does not make a photo good. It isn't a subject and should not be treated as one. True... out of focus does contribute to the way an image would like to be felt, as in the mood and so forth. However, when the majority of your effort is put into background effects, floating spheres, swirly flowers and portraits of the back of people's heads... expression is limited to technique. The same goes for contrast. Examine the work of old masters of photography. Subtle photos deserve subtle treatment. Messing up the white balance rarely makes an image work good. If you want a good picture have white whites. The images posted on this board are gimmicky at best, if there are images posted at all. You all talk more about gear that actual images. You are more focused on "putting lipstick on a pig" with photoshop than taking a good picture out of the camera. I suggest you heed what I am saying if you ever want to make it somewhere in the realm of professional photography. You can use this thread to discuss what I am saying or post some of your favorite professionals work.

Prolly a troll but anyway

You're being unfair, there's a fair few of us who float through the gear faggotry, but even so what do you expect of this place? It's one of the oldest 4chan boards, a lot of people have come and, usually as someone becomes decent they move away from 4chan because it is 4chan and they don't want to be associated with it. /p/ is a kind a first hesitant step onto the web to learn how to take photos before moving onto somewhere better.

I've been looking at these guys a lot lately

web doesn't do this guy justice, really it is worth it to go to one of his stores

That depends on if the person knows what they are doing. Modifying the color temperature of an image can provoke certain emotional feelings or can be used to manipulate light to give a desired illusion. This application is mainly seen in the realm of cinema but photographers are adopting these techniques to create unique photos.

Other than that, I agree with you.

/p/hotographers are the guitarists of pictures. besides, every 2nd photo posted here seems like a troll attempt. though i must admit i tend to post photos just because i took them and they're there even though most are shit. being an anonymous board makes it easy to come here looking for gratification.

>You are more focused on "putting lipstick on a pig" with photoshop than taking a good picture out of the camera.
do you think this is due to the prolific use of digital now? i used to be a major photoshopfag, (Greg Martin's starscape tutorials, lol) before i even had a camera but since i got one, i've used mainly picasa to edit my shit. personally i got a dslr because it seemed easier and faster for me to fuck around and learn the technical aspect of taking photos. and "digital art" is very insubstantial and immature imo - which is why i loved it when i was younger.

some namefag posted this photo, i love it for some unknown reason.

/p/ is made up a bunch of failures. Truthfully, all the old namefags that had any talent took off or they lurk without giving any helpfully advice. The rest of them contribute to the cancer by talking about gear and become easily distracted by the increase of trolling post brought on by the /pho/ board on 7chan closing and by how popular 4chan has become. /p/ is dead and the talent is gone.

If the cancer was removed by mods willing to apply some chemo to the board then things would improve and the better crowd will be either encouraged to post or not be so drowned out by the white noise of the ragefags and gearfags. It will only get worse as it is.

Hey, I took this photo. It was taken with an old russian FED-50. No postprocess: straight from the film scan.
You can check it out at my gallery:

BTW, thank you for your comment :-)
Also... I think I always posted as anon, I'm not a namefag.
