Stop framing your shots.

The first, second and third shots aren't even interesting. If a photo requires a black border around the shot to give it continuity and purpose then it probably wasn't a good shot to begin with. You should be striving to make good shots with the least amount of manipulation possible. Once the composition can hold its own then start messing around with PS. Sorry to sound negative but if you keep doing this DevArt border stuff all the time you'll never learn.

i don't like the borders either, it was one of the first things i noticed

1: i like the idea, but the trees behind the corn(?) at the bottom take away a little and there's just something missing from the shot, i dunno the pink sky just isn't that interesting

2: i like this one the best but the sun is blown out and detail is lost around it. i would like it better if it were a little less exposed so the foreground is completely silhouette and the sun isn't overexposed as much, but that's just me

3: missed the focus - i'm assuming the subject is the ants?

4: this one's nice, the buildings in the upper right are kind of distracting to me though
