Alpha lenses Anonymous
/p/, I'd like a do-it-all lens to replace the kit lens on my Alpha a200, as it produces dreadful chromatic aberrations (see picture). More zoom would be nice, but optical quality is most important. Is the 18-200mm lens worth a look?

The 18-200 is slightly better than 18-70 at all comparable focal lengths (not a big feat seeing as the 18-70 is one of the worst kit lenses out there). But it becomes pretty bad at 150+ mm, you have to stop it down to f/8-f/11 to get sharp images.

Save up and get the Zeiss 16-80. In its category, it's regarded as being second only to the epic (and fucking expensive) 12-60 Olympus.

I'm currently eyeing the sigma 17-70 2.8-4 macro for the same purpose... anybody tried that? i heard wonders from some people and shit from others on the interwebs.

It's those red/blue/purple/yellow bands of color on very bright highlights.
