haha oh wow sony mimic their vertical grip to be identical to the horizontal one so that you dont have to learn two different positions.

NO ONE ELSE DOES THIS, SONY FUCKING RULE AT ERGONOMICS.
>> Project !dashI8UpO.
At least they're going in the right direction with the epic viewfinder, the sturdy build, and ergonomic layout rather than roffle live view, massive screen, sexy fragile curves and 12 different colors like all their other consumer electronics products. And for the company that makes Nikon's sensors, this ones got an awful noisy one.

This will happen, sony always release everything in black first, but unlike canon, will release white instead of silver.

Wow. I totally thought at first glance that this was one of those shops that adds an absurd amount of buttons and controls to the back of a camera as a joke.

What are the 'Fn' and 'C' buttons for?

Why does it need two power switches? Does one just control the grip? Why can't the grip turn on when the main power turns on? If you turn off the grip, does it turn off the whole camera? Unrelated rant: I personally wish that the power switch on my 40D was in a less-convenient place. I almost never use it except by accident.

Why the hell does the steady-shot get a prominent right-under-your-thumb placed switch on the back of the camera? That shit should also be stuck somewhere where it's hard to hit by accident.

Why the hell is there an EV compensation button if there are two control wheels? Or is this the model with only one control wheel? If so, where the hell's the EV compensation button on the main camera body?
>> Anonymous
The second power button is for the grip.
The FN is an awesome button that lets you move about the menu and select whichever part you need.
C is a custom button.

I got for A700 (not the A900 shown here) but it's awesome to use.
>> Anonymous
"got any blacker"
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>280709
fn lets you switch around between iso and wb and focus modes and flash etc then use the control wheels to change them.

custom does whatever.

the SSS button (on my a100 and store a700) is really hard to switch off, so you dont change it by accident, also MARKETING LULZ.

The EV button on the main body is on the top behind the shutter buttons, you can just make it out in the photo. Presumably it does more than just ev outside of auto modes, im sure mine does.

>Why the hell is there an EV compensation button if there are two control wheels?
Because camera manufacturers love to have sudden lapses of idiocy when it comes to button placement.

My Olympus E-3 has dual control wheels and an EV button. In aperture priority mode, BOTH wheels by default control aperture, same with shutter priority. To dial EV compensation, you have to press and HOLD the EV button, then turn one of the wheels, but the button is placed in such a way that you'll either drop the camera or dislocate your finger while doing this. How fucking retarded is that? Thankfully, you can reassign wheel functions if you dig to the bottom of the menus.

As for Sony, just look at the Invalid Operation button on the A350. I doubt any manufacturer will ever top the idiocy of that.

>Why the hell does the steady-shot get a prominent right-under-your-thumb placed switch on the back of the camera? That shit should also be stuck somewhere where it's hard to hit by accident.

On the contrary, switching IS off should be as easy and fast as switching the shutter speed. When you're working in mixed lighting, shutter speeds ranging from like 1/20-1/100th, they'll be plenty of times where switching IS on (going slow) or off (to cut down on lag and the I've-seen-tests-both-ways question of whether it affects IQ when it's not needed) is the thing to do if you have time.

Most ridiculous layout I've ever seen. A vertical grip needs a shutter release and *maybe* a wheel. That grip makes the camera an unweildy square brick.

I know you're trolling, but the sensor isn't the whole of the imaging system. Sony doesn't make the filters, signal amps, converters or rendering system for anyone but themselves.

The real question is, how many people use those and how often do they shot at such sensivity levels ?

I don't see why people are giving sony such flak for actually designing a legitimate vertical grip. Compared to the D3 and 1ds, it actually makes sense.

Or used a CPL for landscapes. in less than ideal conditions.
In Tofino (Rainforest) I was regularly shooting at ISO 1600+ when using the Sigma 10-20mm, because with the CPL on, under the canopy there was barely any light getting to the sensor.

I regularly go above ISO 800 on my D300, I try to keep my D200 below that however, because it well sucks the color out of anything above 640

You're making too much sense. You have to simplify your line of thinking with the Canikon crowd. Think more along the lines of us-vs-them an it makes more sense.
>> Anonymous
>>280909
What were your shutter speeds?

People used film at below those speeds for years when that's all there was of any quality. Sure, a cleanish ISO 25600 (or 12800 or 6400) is fucking awesome, but not because it opens up any new subjects. It just lets you get more depth of field than you would've had.

What? There's prominent noise even above 400. It's clearly a studio/bright sunny landscape camera. That's fine, but I'd be more happy with an a800 with the D700/D3 sensor so I can have the 2-3 extra stops.

It basically only lets you continue shooting handheld. If I'm taking photos in thick bush or anywhere where there's low light I'll have a tripod with me. The highest iso film I shoot is 400, but most of the time I'm shooting 100 either in 120 rolls or 4x5 sheets. Speed's not of the essence, nor should it be for landscapes.

uhhhh why can't the A900 be used for sports? it's 5 FPS, is there some random limit /p/ros have for a "sports" camera

it'll take the same shots a D300/D700/5D/1D/1Ds will and excels at some things the others fail

just because it's 24 MP and it's not for sports? what a crock of fucking bullshit

Its poor high ISO performance means you're limited to a lower ISO.

This means when you're already wide open and you're pushed for shutter speed you wont be able to crank the ISO to 3200 to cope. Shutter speed is king in sports.

Thats why.

>> Up to ISO 400 there's not a lot in it (certainly not when you take into account the resolution difference) - though the A900 does show a touch more noise than its competitors.
