went to a 350z/G35 meet in texas

So far I only have the 17-85, and 50mm 1.8, what should I buy next? I'm debating between a flash, the 35mm 2.0 or a landscape lens... any recommendations for what I should get with a $500 budget?

why would you need any of those?

id say get a flash, you already have a wide angle and a good normal.

He doesn't have either. He has a standard zoom, which includes wide and normal focal lengths, but is quite different from "a wide" or "a normal." It's also slow.

OP: It's hard to say without knowing what you mostly shoot and what your style is. Most people would get the most mileage out of the 35/2; it's hard to go wrong with a normal prime. I'd suggest looking at a 28mm instead, though, either f/2.8 or f/1.8... 35mm on Canon EF-S is sort of long for a normal, at least to me and I think for most people.

How often do you use your onboard flash?
What's your most commonly used focal length?

Just wanted to chime in to say that I really like OP's pic.

Yep, that's normal, just like the 80mm lens for the Mamiya C330, or a 360mm that covers 8x10.

OP: i find myself using 35 and under~ on my zoom lens most of the time. the 17-85's distortion is pretty bad.

is there a cheap ultrawide or speedlight for canon that you guys recommend?

I saw a gallery of car pics taken the other day with the 35 and it seemed like a really good length for cars. Dont need to get too far back to get the whole thing in and good for closeups.
