Want to break into Photography as a hobby... Mountain Lightning !0/CX6DlAL.
But I have no idea where to start? Can you guys point me towards a decently priced digital camera that I can buy lens attachments for when I figure more stuff out. Would you guys be willing to help?

I'd suggest looking at the canikon offerings in your price range, and go with that.

Pentax/Sony/Olympus offer more for the money than Nikon/Canon

great for hobbyists

Thanks for all the input, guys. I appreciate it.

yep that must be why everyone buys them and considers them the best.

it's not uncommon for the best to be considered the best.

just because you haven't got a canikon don't try to justify it with saying that yours is better.

i'm suprised you are not a tripfag

this is the best advice so far. Pick any random brand - really whichever has cameras (the powershots and coolpix are good) that look nice to you. Then get one of their compacts that has full manual (meaning you can adjust focus, shutterspeed, aperture, white balance, and sensitivity by yourself), aperture priority, shutter priority, and auto modes. For the first week, use auto. For the second week, try to branch out to the other modes. Eventually you'll want to never shoot in auto unless you see a great opportunity that won't last long. Get a book or take a class on basic digital photography. Get a cheap tripod. Try to take pictures every day.

almost forgot, the reason you don't want to buy a dslr right away is b/c you could accidentally fuck it up pretty easily and it's a lot of cash down the drain if you turn out to not like photography at all. Also, try not to use the in-camera flash whenever possible.
