$600 for lens Anonymous
i have a canon xti, 18-55 50mm, 75-300 and 580ex

i use the 50mm all the time but indoors i use the 18-55 + flash for versatility

i have $600 and i want to get a new lens

is the canon 17-40 a good choice?

i have seen tests again tamron 17-50 and sigma 18-50, they all are very good but i can use the 17-40 with the new 5d later

is there a better choice for now with my xti

What limits have you hit with your currents lenses? What shots exist that your current lenses cannot do that you wish you could do?

no limit, i just want to buy a new one

my friend is buying a flash so if i buy a lens too, we can both get a rebate

Seriously.. I challenge you.

POst your best pic right now. If you dont post, I encourage everyone to leave this fucking thread to die. I bet 30 internets right now, that the only difference a new lens will make is extra weight in your bag.

17-40 is a good lens, but quite slow.

This is most likely true.

I've shot with the 17-40. It's okay. Nothing hugely special. It's a good lens, high resolution and all that. Slow, obviously.

But you might like the lens. I'll post a few samples once I track down the files. Although- are you really going to be getting the new 5D just a few months after spending all this money on a lens? Take that into consideration, too.

thank you, please post samples

no, later = later on = months/years

Sometime in a day or two. My apartment's as disorganized as a bad Winogrand imitation and they're on a CD. That CD I need to find.

Oh, I just understood the last part of your post.

I thought the "no, later = later on = months/years" were instructions not to cop out and never find and post the sample.

Because I think I've done that before somewhere.

you just blew my mind
