Only real pic I took with the lens, the rest were just shitty test shots looking to see if there was any Focus issues or CA, and what the bokeh looked like (awesome at f1.8)

Are you the one who won the camera for winning that contest with the pic of the fireworks?

Yup

Ya it certainly seems to be, F1.8 isn't fantastic or anything, but as soon as the lens is stopped down to even 2.0 (That pic was at 2.2) It is pretty fantastic.

I only wish it focused closer.

I actually bought a copy of this lens too recently after playing with one at a friends house.

Have to say, if you're using the 85mm for this type of photography, you're wasting your time. The 85mm is a portrait lens first and foremost.

Oh I know, I just had no people to take pics of. Plus I won't feel bad if I don't use the lens much, since it was dirt cheap.

Unrelated note
The Guy who runs the fireworks company wants me to contract out and go to his events and take pictures for him (he does a lot of private showings, Which suprised me, since I figured there was a lot of red tape to clear before being able to fire off fireworks).
Gotta draw up a contract now, cause hes not getting the full rights to the pictures, But I have to give him what he wants aswell.. Photography is more business than it is actuall picture taking I swear...

now you're getting the idea. photography really is about 99% business and 1% commodity. go pick up the photographer's market 2007 and business and legal forms for photographers right now.

This is sum serious shit you're getting into, and you need to be prepared.

I need to get ahold of those books as well.

Anyway, lens porn.

Maybe he's just trying to do it on the side and doesn't want to become some sort of photography mogul?

Seriously, mixing business with art sucks and should be avoided, or rather sidelined and seperated from each other, as much as possible.
>> Anonymous
that's ideally true.

but then that whole food and rent business comes into play.

plus, there's always the significant chance that the photographer might get a raw deal, such that he'll unwittingly sign over the rights to his photos for a horrible rate.

Actually funny you mention that, I've got another contract coming up (more in progress)
I need to take architectural photo's to be used for prints and publications for the construction company. (Of a hockey Arena)

That one I need to do more on a feel for basis, Since I know the construction company as I am related to one of the owners. But I do still plan on charging apropriately. Just need to find out how many shots they want to use.
