You look like a pretentious scene fag. I'm saging you cause I don't care for narcissistic people.

I'm not scene. I am pretentious. Not scene. And it's just a picture of myself, how does it show I'm narcissistic?
>> Anonymous
>And it's just a picture of myself, how does it show I'm narcissistic?

lol
>> Anonymous
>>55756
? I guess taking a picture of one's self is an entirely new and outbreaking thing, huh?
>> Anonymous
>>55763
narcissistic doesn't equal outbreaking.

it's something very human, actually.
>> Anonymous
>>55764
It is, and I never said I wasn't, I just find it funny how one can consider another a narcissistic judging by just one single picture.
>> Anonymous
>>55768
so you posted a pic of yourself on 4chan, asked for critique, and don't consider yourself a narcissistic person?

oh wow haha

we all are narcissistic to some degree, anyway.
>> Anonymous
>>55769
Isn't this /p/?
What are you supposed to post here?
And I asked for opinions on the PHOTO itself, not myself.

Yes, we are. I'm comfortable with the way I look, I took a photo which I considered to be of quality as a photograph and I wanted /p/'s opinion. That's it.

I don't like the cut off things at the top/right/left borders. Too much grain on the left side. And I dunno if it's just the shadow, but your arm looks like you stole it from a starving Ethiopian :/.
>> Anonymous
Would prefer the composition if you cropped it down to the rightmost 3/4ths of it.
>> Choamsky
I'm guessing 90% of the people who read this thread for the first time googled "narcissism".

Maaaan. I wish closeted homosexuals and random Internet women told me *I* was hot when I post self-portraits.

The second one was a girl, lol.

and lol@all the stupid drama just because of one stupid photo.

Cut off the weight black thing at the top.
After that, it'd be nice.

>>56133
Oh, nice call, I didn't notice that, I'll probably edit it out in photoshop, thanks.

I once took a philosophy class called Narcissism and Cruelty... that rocked. Narcissistic Personality Disorder FTW! (no I don't think self-portraits are necessarily narcissistic)

Good photo, two things that bother me about it:
1. Eyes kind of jump to the shadow to the left of your hair. Try maybe cropping it in normal aspect ration and then going rule of 1/3s on it. That could help, if not do some highlight/shadow adjustments.
2. Shadows. The black black shirt is ok but the black pants that do not have any detail to them kind of throw off everything by a bit. Eyes just see a big black piece that takes a bit to understand and throws of the picture a bit.

Dig the photo though. Off camera lighting set up?

Critique /p/, dig it.
>> Anonymous
>>56169
Hm, good point, the shadow can get distracting... But I was actually kinda aiming for a shadow-esque picture. And yeah, off camera lightning set up to make what I just mentioned.

About the clothes, I was trying to make it all seem like a uniform color with the contrast of the belt (which isn't really noticeable but oh well), thus the dark polo, dark scarf (though you can't tell it's a scarf), dark sunglasses, dark pants and dark shoes. No, I do not wear black all the time, I just dressed like that for the picture.

Thanks, your critique was appreciated.

Dude, you're hot. I want your jacket. Also hair.
>> Anonymous
>>56208
It's a polo+scarf, actually.

You sir, win the official title of Phyne!

Girls? Or /p/hags?

j/k.

Kinda.

(/p/)hags.

OHHHHHHHHHH SEE WHAT I DID THERE?
>> slim !yE5LOsLjxQ
i think that this is a photo of your bed and that you happen to be in it. empty space to the left is lame.

your legs are too dark to see any detail, i had a hard time placing the positioning of your body. the cut off clock up top is distracting. so is the cut off knee. more knee, less clock, less bed. shoot again. not such a loooooooong photo either.

also you do look like you think you're too hip to shit in this. it's kind of pretentious. if this were a shot of someone else who was just sitting there i wouldnt think he was pretentious, but lets face it man, you made damn sure you had those sunglasses on before you set the timer and we all know why.

finally, the idea of a self portrait or a portrait of any kind is to display a person in a state that describes them. scarf and shades aside, the angle here implies that you think your shoes say more about your personality than your face. now if you had taken the shot panned a little to the left and turned a little to the right so that your body was positioned at an angle with your head at the upper left and your shoes at the bottom right, it would show the sort of too cool for school aloofness that i think you were going for better than the almost straight shot you've got here. having the face less prominent and backed away could work for you that way but not so much this way. this pose and this scene can work better than it is in this shot.
>> Anonymous
I think the composition would have worked if your legs didn't lead the eyes out of the picture to the right. Also, I agree that it's annoying not to be able to see how the legs are really positioned. I do like the shadows on the bed and the wall behind you, and the contrast is nice. Good work
>> Anonymous
>>but lets face it man, you made damn sure you had those sunglasses on before you set the timer and we all know why.

No shit, sherlock. I was wearing the sunglasses on purpose for the photo itself because that was one of the things I was aiming for which I even entitled the picture "Sunglasses in the night". And notice how the sunglasses are dark? Yeah. And notice how I tried to make the whole "dark" scenario? Yeah. The sunglasses were one of my main focus. It's dark in there, in case you didn't notice, so the sunglasses are a bit ironic.

And as for the last paragraph: Yes, I actually wanted the shoes to be included in the picture. And I guess the way you see it is the way YOU see it and what YOU believe to be more correct. I don't even have a tripod, I put the camera on top of some books that were on top of a chair and managing to fit myself correctly in the photo was hard as hell when I don't have many resources.
>> slim !yE5LOsLjxQ
>>56308
i actually don't see a 'dark' theme at all. that room looks bright to me. and it looked to me like you entitled the picture 'scarf in the summer'. check out your filename.

but most importantly, no one cares if you don't have the resources to make framing yourself easy. a good photo is a good photo and one that needs work is one that needs work, excuses or no excuses. what if you were woring for someone and you handed them this pic? would you attach a note saying 'sorry i didn't do better but i don't have a tripod'? that just laziness dude.

anyway. i was just giving you suggestions that would make me like this photo more. i think if you cut out the cut off junk and unnecessary bed space, reposition the camera to get your whole body in for a sense of perspective to augment the attitude you're displaying, and show some detail in your pants so they don't look like a glob of black, this would improve. i mean, you asked for comments. did you expect everyone to line up on their knees for you?
>> Anonymous
>>56314
Did I ever say your comment wasn't appreciated? It was, don't worry, and very concise as well, thanks.
And about the pants, they're just... black. It can't get into more detail than that unless I spread my legs and point more light at it and say "LOOK, PANTS".

As for the title, it is "sunglasses in the light". My first idea was "scarf in the summer, sunglasses in the night", but it was too long and you can't even tell I'm wearing a scarf anyway.

i dont really care about the composition, its a shitty picture anyway

aw, someone's jeluz.
>> Anonymous
Of a picture taken of himself... for himself...

We can talk about the composition all we want, where the legs should be etc but it is still a boring picture regardless. its not exactly groundbreaking to take a picture of yourself.

It is especially funny when he rages at those critiques and at the same time asks for them. Its like you can give a critique... but it has to be a GOOD one.
