CPL for ultra wide Anonymous
I will place an order for the Sigma 10 20 next week.
Will be using it mainly for landscapes.

Now I've read about the potential problems -uneven polarisation- one can have when using a circular polariser on a UWA lens.

This sort of puts me off purchasing an expensive CP (77mm HOYA digital £120).
I can't imagine NOT using a CP for landscapes though. Skies look so uninteresing without it.

(I am aware the UWA needs slim filters)

What is your experience?
Do you use a CP, or is it now permanently in the bag?
What is the way to prevent the uneven polarisation?
Is it worth spending another £120 for a CP?

I felt the same way till I got a free filter and decided to try it.

i have the 10-20 and i don't bother with the cp. i only bother taking it out, when the light is good.

i've used a CPL as wide as 18mm

>Do you use a CP, or is it now permanently in the bag?

usually only comes out when there's a nice blue sky

>What is the way to prevent the uneven polarisation?

change the laws of physics - the uneven polarization happens because the amount of polarization depends on the angle of the sun. with a wide angle, you're getting more of a range of angles in the shot, so polarization effect varies across the shot

>Is it worth spending another £120 for a CP?

up to you - you'll end up with uneven polarization in the sky, but who knows - might turn out to look neat. personally i wouldn't get one on that wide of a lens
