*NOT MY WORK*

Relatively new to photography.

For anyone who has ever watched Top Gear, can you tell me how they always get these colors. The only thing I can think of is putting the white balance on the cooler side, but I only come close.

I am also a total newb when it comes to lenses. I know absolutely nothing about them as Ive been using a cheap point-and-shoot digital. I'm thinking of upgrading to a Nikon d40. Good choice? My real question is what kind of lens gets that nice clean cutoff in the corners that they always get. Kinda like fish eye without the bubble.

Don't flame me for comparing video to photography I know they are different. What I'm asking is how to get these shots with a camera.

they use a lot of filters, and do a lot of post production, all the viginetting is post production. you can do it manually if you so wish

No. Cheap, but one of the worst entry-level DSLRs feature-wise. Get a D80 if you want a good Nikon camera.

Nothing personal to anyone but everyone seems so egotistical and so full of themselves. As I said I'm new to the hobby. Meaning I'm not ready to spend that much for a few extra features and megapixels. Besides here is the conclusion of the review from dpreview.com

Detail (D-SLR)
Rating (out of 10)
Build quality 8.0
Ergonomics & handling 8.5
Features 8.0
Image quality 8.5
Performance (speed) 9.0
Value 9.0

Highly Recommended

The only problem with that, is that almost everything that goes through dpreview comes out highly recommended. That, and they review (hopefully) fairly shortly after release then never update. Look up five year old cameras, and they'll still have their old glowing reviews even if they're outdated.

stop worrying about others opinions of your camera go out and take pictures, enjoy your camera, wait till you feel like you are limited by the camera, then upgrade. lenses are more important than bodies.

All I've got to say is www.kenrockwell.com

That place will always be a good resource for those that need info regarding photography reviews and tips.

The D40 is actually THE entry-level Nikon D-SLR to go for if you aren't too familiar with their functions or using SLR's in general.

If and when you get more experience, you can up it to the D70-80. Just keep in mind it will take a long time before you gain the knowledge it takes to operate hiher-end cameras.

All the colors are glass filters, and I was under the impression the viginette was manual also.

No praise on the D40, I'm a canonfag and would recommend one of their beginner SLRs. Also, lots of effects. Some cars come out great in HDR and some really, really don't. Have fun shooting.

here it is:

good lighting, and lots of photoshopping.. I can't stress the photoshopping enough. In the ad/production world you photoshop the shit out of everything.

>>299083

LOTS of filters, namely split neutral density, polarizing, graduated cooling, and the like. If you're going after a look like that, I'd suggest something like the Cokin creative system and their plate filters instead of buying the shitload of ring filters that you'd need for the job.

In photoshop, you'll want to be heavy on the vignetting, a bit muted as far as vibrancy is concerned, and you might want to look into something like Nik Color Efex pro if you want a decent program to recreate those effects you see on TG.
