i got a hold of a canon 10d recently. i don't have a CF card reader so i thought i would just use a USB cable. buuuut apparently canon doesn't offer a driver for the 10d for windows vista. how can i upload images from the 10d?

Plug and play baby.

Get a CF reader. Seriously, they're like $10 and way faster than using the camera.

Are they always? I've remembered reading somewhere that e.g. my 30D is as fast as card reader for transfering data.

In the case of the 10D a card reader would definitely be faster.

The 10D is only USB 1.0 right?

I prefer to use card readers, just easier to take the cf card out really.

Also means I can keep shooting with Card #2 while Card #1 is copying.

BUT WHAT IF YOUR MEMORY CARD DOOR HINGE BREAKS?

OR IF YOU BEND THE PINS?

Fellow 10d user here. I much prefer uploading through a reader to the direct connection, but if you're using Vista (like I now am) you have to remember to shift+move, not just copy, otherwise you'll end up leaving the pics on the CF. (But you knew that)

I've got a 30d, i just bought a usb 2.0 card reader, it's a huge difference, at least twice as fast.

OP here

yeah i just picked up a cf reader from a friend. all is good. thanks for the help.

and hell, since i got to upload the images i've been aching to see, i'll share with you. i didn't have a chance to use the camera until i had gotten in from a party late that night. i reconnected with some friends in a room and most of the images have the same general theme as this pic.
