Hi /p/, I'm new in photography and this is one of the last pictures I took. Is it good?
I had to make it smaller, cos the original is too big, but I can upload it aswell.

Some good advice? something I should do? something I shouldn't do? :)

Thanks dudes! ^^

PROTIP: Find a subject before you press the shutter button.

Dunno if trolling so I'll just assume ignorant.

Your committing a common bad practice of dSLR noobs. OMFG the background is BLURRY!! This is awesum pictar!

Lrn 2 composition, lrn 2 self-critique, I'd be more in depth but it's 3 am.

well, the subject was the leaf, but the composition sucks...

>>279084
Not trolling, seriously ignorant ^^. Well, I have to learn about composition, but all I found was some rules about dividing the canvas in three parts and bla bla which never works for me actually :/

Self-critique would be great if I knew what's correct and what's wrong. The blurry background looked cool to me, but... you see :P

So... no blurry backgrounds and more composition and self-critique ^^ I'll try to do my best.

Thanks :)

>So... no blurry backgrounds and more composition and self-critique ^^ I'll try to do my best.

I didn't mean no blurry backgrounds at all. Having them out of focus can make the subject pop out more. It's just that people holding a dSLR for the first time will be so impressed by it, they'd make use of it all the time regardless of the subject.

and as for the blurry backgrounds, learn when and when not to use them
>> Anonymous
>>279091
In this case I used the blurry background exactly for that, so the main object pops up. Also a consequence of not knowing much about how my camera works and taking close pictures ^^

I'll try to learn about blurry backgrounds then. And by wiki, do you mean wikipedia? or is there some wiki about photography with good information and tips?

Thank you for the advices :)

About the borkeh thing, this is the problem I have when I need to take a picture as close as this one.

I couldn't get nearer...

1. Resize, faggot
2. Macro lens.
3. Macro filter.
4. Extension tube.
5. Real zoom lens and ditch that 18-55mm brick.

why is /p/ so anal about resizing?

Why is life so anal about giving me 200Mpx screens and infinite bandwidth?

Why resize is so /b/ about anal?

Your first picture was the best of the three. I like the positioning of the leaves, creates some nice repetition. Close the aperture a bit, and crop if you can't get close enough.to fill the frame with it.

I suspect he's on the 18-55 zoom; if so, he's already stopped down as far as he can be at f/5.6. :\

no, bokeh != bad focusing, use the macro mode on your camera, get a lens that doesn't suck for that sort of thing if you still can't get close enough.

Stop down means smaller aperture but higher f-number. He can still go to f/8 to get more in focus.

I am aware.

On the EF-S 18-55mm (the Rebel XT kit lens), no, you can't. The range is f/3.5 to f/5.6.

no.

Those are the maximum apertures for the 18 and 55mm ends respectively. You can stop it down to f/32 or so.

Well, shit.

Saging self for fail.

Lol wut? There will be more depth of field at f/8 than at f/5.6.
