I wonder if Canon's Live View is any better than Olympus'.
>> Anonymous
Forget liveview, it's a useless gimmick. I'm more interested in the 17-raw-shot buffer, 6.5 frames per second and 9 cross-type AF sensors. This looks to be an awesome action-shooting-on-a-budget body.
>> Anonymous
Nothing too spectacular or unpredictable.

Yaaaaawn. Same AF, same metering, same shit, different package. The 6.5fps will be *annoying* unless they make it selectable.

All they did was take the XTi sensor, put it in a 30D body, and add even more shit to the mode dial.

>>70096

Useless for action photography with so few points. Ask me how I know. Might be endless frustration with the difficulty of keeping a subject in the AF zones.

Why couldn't they go for some happy middle ground between the Rebel and the 1D series? Like 15-20 points? Only the pros "need" the 30+ points in the 1D series cameras. OH WAIT, then they couldn't repackage the XTi guts and slap new firmware on it and call it a new camera!

[rant off] Sometimes, I fucking hate Canon.

>The 6.5fps will be *annoying* unless they make it selectable.
Drive mode's selectable on all of the EOS dSLRs. Why would they take it out of the newest one? Or do you mean you want to be able to hold down the button and fire slower than 6.5fps?

>Useless for action photography with so few points. Ask me how I know.
How do you know?
>> Macheath !8b4g0BkNZg
Ummm, it looks like a different (albeit seemingly only marginally improved) sensor than the XTi.

I wonder what ISO 3200 will look like on it though.

If you're so incompetent that you can't take a good action photo with "merely" 9 autofocus points, then you don't deserve a K1000, let alone a 40D. Sounds to me like you're trying to blame the equipment in your hands for the failure of the equipment between your ears.

If you want a 1D-class camera and think it'll solve your problems, buy one. I, on the other hand, will get a 40D the day it's released because I understand what it's capable of, what I need to know in order to use it properly, and how it'll help me day-to-day.

Don't like Canon bodies? Enjoy your noisy Sony-made sensors.
>> Rawr !pBDDkuoH3.
>>70104

*sigh*. Selectable as in, can fire at less than 6.5fps, yes. Just like you can do on the 1DMk3, which has at *least* two settings for frame rate in multiple-frame drive. Why would you want to do that? Well, if you want to fire off multiple frames without releasing the shutter button fully, but not shoot off three frames when you only wanted one. It's easy to accidentally do it even on the 20D.

I understand how to use the Canon AF system completely, thanks. I've read the posts from Chuck Westfall explaining the finer points of AI Servo. You're really going to have to try harder than reciting the worn-out "it's not the equipment, it's the photographer" phrase. Composition, no shit sherlock. Technical and practical limitations of the technology? You bet your ass it matters.

Tracking a race car braking from 150mph to 60mph is surprisingly difficult to do when you only have 9 AF points. A)The camera has a hard time telling there's something there from the background, and B)The time the system has with a sensor over a suitable area (ie, one with contrast) is very, very small.

More sensors = more data = better chance of the subject being in focus. It becomes even more problematic when you only want *one* car in a group in focus and you're working with lenses that has a DoF of under a foot at the apertures you're shooting at; ever tried to track something moving with only one active AF point? Next to impossible.

I have plenty of perfectly good racing photos and even a few paying clients. My success rate roughly tripled when I rented a 1DMk2.

I own/use Canon gear, and yes, thank you, I'm aware of all the sensor differences. What, you think you're the only person on the planet who knows that large CMOS sensors with on-die amplification are better than small CCDs?

God, you people act like 15 year old children; you're almost worse than DPreview forum users.

nominal upgrades are for suckers with too much money. 40D is a 10D with more pixels.

Sorry but as nice as our little photography niche is, it's still 4chan after all.

Lol no, that's not me. I can't be bothered to write THAT much just for lulz.

Btw, seriously I use only the center focus point 99% of the time, otherwise the cameras try to outsmart me and fail.

It's official now, incidentally.

Also: 1Ds Mk III, which I should never buy because it's too damn sexy. I'd ruin the sensor by locking up the mirror and trying to have sex with it.

Also, EF-S 18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS for $200 comes out in October. I think I've found myself a birthday present.

This thread is now about:
Nikon D200 vs. Canon 40D
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA

Based on my extensive experience working with both the 40D and the D200, I can objectively state that Nikon is teh suxx0rz, fag.
>> eku !8cibvLQ11s
How silly of me to become a student right now. If I just would work, I would have enough money to upgrade to 40D. It's like soooo hot, even though I have 30D.

Well, maybe next year...

Re: The wireless transmitter widget for the 40D:
"For longer shoots, the WFT-E3 can connect directly to external hard disk drives (HDDs). And if connected to a portable GPS device, the location and time of capture is automatically added to each image as EXIF data."

NEED. NEED THIS. NAO.

Take the easy route and simply mug a loaded Asian tourist. They quite literally sweat and shit cameras.

>>70495
Nikon D200 has that GPS shtick... I've never seen or heard about a person who actually used it.

And some early Kodak DSLRs could save photos directly to hard drives. (They failed at saving them to flash, though :)

Those goddamn Asian tourists ruin my life! My girlfriend, who works as a tour guide, now tells me to fuck off whenever I try to get near her with my camera because she's weary of Japanese tourists snapping photos of her D:
