Loved how hes framed against the sky.

Skateboarding is what got me into photography, unfortunately by the time I got a decent setup I had to move to a place with lousy skaters and shitty spots.

...are you kidding me?

Skateboarding is generally the most boring kind of photography out there. Fisheye lens+gritty urban scene+guy flying through air right in the center=99.9% of all skate pictures ever taken. Even flowers and pets show more creativity and originality.

>>56454
instead of being a dick just help this guy out for 2 seconds

>>56451
there are many ways different ways you can have the effect, you can do it by computer or which kind of camera you have
personally, i just use photoshop
>> Anonymous
>>56451
Effects called fisheye

You can buy lenses specifically for that
>> Anonymous
using photoshop to convert to fisheye is pointless, the purpose of the lens is to get into tight spaces a normal lens wouldn't be able to see everything.
>>56458
are you kidding me? it's one of the most technically challenging things to shoot... i get paid to take photos of people, cars, and other random crap, but skateboarding is the hardest to shoot well.
>> i love strobes pskaught
fucking great picture man!
Its true that skating photography is usually the same old boring shit, but this is great, well done. post more
>> Anonymous
love the picture, especially the sky and both lights at the corners

thumbs up !

Wow, this is awesome. Excellent work

>>56445

what flash set up did you use?
>> pskaught
>>56530
I would like to know the same thing, something halfway decent since his shutter speed is 1/250th.
>> Anonymous
>>56582

thats why i asked . i dont understand how there isnt a flash as the photographer has blatantly used some sort of flash set up to the sides of the picture.

im referring to the two flashes on the tripods to the right and left even on this small picture you can see the flash support tripods legs on the flash on the right.

maybe there is a way for the d200 to set off a external flash(whatever) with it not being recorded on the exif data????

you dope.
its a remote slave, strobe kits send no data to the camera, its just a trigger.
I'm looking for brand and make of the strobes you're using.

>>56634

what do you think of the d200? ive wanted to get one for a while but im worried the second i get one nikon will pull something else out the bag next year or a better spec for the same price.

meh the digital market is a funny thing.
>> Anonymous
>>56635
whatever you do, don't get a d40, no AF motor in the body, so you have to have special AF lenses... stick with a d80 or d200. They both good cameras, and the d200 feels super solid compared to the cheaper nikons.
>> Anonymous
>>56638

thats what i hear about the d200 and how good the build quality is. it just that sinking feeling that if i pile a bunch of money into the d200 that within a year it will have a successor or canon will bring out a better priced competitor than they already have.

i know the d200 would still be an awesome camera it just i cant help but feel that im about to get gypped by a newer model. Nikon seem to have an 18 month cycle between announcing successors.

There are rumors circulating that the D3x is going to be announced in the next couple of weeks. Might want to hold off a wee bit more.
>> Anonymous
>>56644

lol rumors rumors and more rumors. i cant really afford a d200 let alone anything more expensive.

but if a newer equivalent of the d2oo was to shoot out of nikons chooch in a year or so i would rather wait. they have already developed products for the next three years or so its just a case of when we get them.

If you want a camera now, buy a camera now. Unlike computers and cars, cameras hold their value extremely well, especially a Nikon, and especially a top-notch camera like the D200.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>56648
True, but presumably a D3x is gonna push down the prices of used d200s.

>>56660Unlike digital cameras, computers and cars, film cameras hold their value extremely well, especially a Pentax, and especially a solid manual workhorse like the ME Super.
Fixed.

I wouldn't worry about resale value. A camera, a car, a computer are all tools to be used. If it will still be doing what it does in twenty years, it's a worthwhile investment, even if the return isn't monetary.

Buy it, use it well, beat it to shit in the process, and retire it when it passes the point where you can't call it "character" anymore.

No, and still no. Digital cameras hold their value terribly, and film cameras used to hold their value well until digital became so popular.

If you want a camera, buy one now. The tecnhology changes too fast to wait for the next best thing because you'll always be waiting. Besides, the image quality is good enough at this point that any digital SLR you buy will be fine. It's just a difference of ergonomics and available lenses.

>>56469are you kidding me? it's one of the most technically challenging things to shoot... i get paid to take photos of people, cars, and other random crap, but skateboarding is the hardest to shoot well.

The technical difficulty of a subject has nothing to do with how original or interesting the vast majority of photos in that subject are. One could even make the argument that the more technically difficult a subject, the more likely every photo is to be similar just because photographers manage to find one setup that works then use it over and over and over again. Like a couple of remotely triggered flashes off to the sides and a fisheye lens...

The more photos of skateboarders I see, the more I want to see photos of skateboarders taken without a fish-eye lens.

This is a trend of encyclopaedic proportions.

Unfortunately, photos of free-runners/parkour aren't much better. What's the deal?
>> Anonymous
its all relative to the market whatever product you buy.

i feel that the main reason digital cameras drop re-sale value so dramatically is that the technology is still in its infancy.

where as with film cameras there is no complacency in the technology in that the best film cameras will always remain the best in their class.(digital backs...etc.etc)

we know when we buy a digital camera that soon it will be redundant in terms of re-sale value. the best thing to do is not procrastinate to the point you never buy anything.

>>56741

haven't seen much skating photography have you?

there is a lot of skate photography, just like any other sport, you will have some overlap in the technique and style. thats not a bad thing and it certainly doesn't mean that it should all be forced into the category of "oh its all fisheyes...etc".

i used to skate years about 9 years ago and we used to knock around with all these crappy 35mm cameras to try and capture tricks we pulled off. it never worked.lol.

Not a great one, and one taken before I discovered the joy of RAW shooting, but I liked the composition.

good skate photograph, but it's in some way similar to all the other skate photos alright

Yes, there is, indeed, a skater in that picture. That does indeed have some similarities with other skate pictures, non?
