A just-released camera for half the normal street price from some random Chinese company?

What could go wrong?

Don't expect anything good, Chinese products use cheap electronics and bad quality, yeah they can do the work but still crap

news flash: check where most of your electronic goods are made, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia etc... unless your living on the 90's still, China makes most of your/our electronic goods, good quality or not, thats up to you to not buy the shit stuff.

as for the website, it states its a wholesaler, not a manufacture. As most (if not all) of those products are made in china anyway they wont be any different if you bought from a store.
the only issues/risks your will have is that been a wholesaler you may have to order in bulk (i deal like this from china myself, the trick is to order one off samples). And warranty issues. But if you dont mind the risk, give it a go, just dont buy from the first price they give you, always haggle for better ;)

any questions, ask me, i do this for a living ^_^

That's awesome.

Yeah, I haggled it down from $410 to $360. And I clarified that it was USD not in Euros since the website has it for Euros. They also make transactions through paypal so I feel more secure and comfortable that way.

Thanks. (And he said he would only send/sell me the one . . . you could make a lot of $$ off of these if you bought a bunch. I'll let you know if I get hosed.)

does it come boxed? or is it one of those unboxed scams where they only give you a body and not the accessories included such as batteries, neck band etc etc

One of the major catches with Canon products not bought in your own country is iirc that the local Canon branch will refuse to service any guarantee... but hey, these guys have a Hotmail account, so I'm sure you'll always be able to contact them for after-sales service :D

You forgot the risk that this is just one big scam, and they plan to put an 'XTi' sticker on a broken AE-1, throw it in a mailing envelope, and send it to him for $400. Which is the main concern I'd have in dealing with anyone who claims to be willing to sell me a Rebel XTi for that price, given that the street price is around $800.

It's probably not working camera or even an older model of a working camera. Even if it is, I would have to say it was stolen so the person who steals is gets 100% profit and wouldn't mind getting it off his hands as quick as possible. I wouldn't bank on that either.

I know it could be a big scam, it seems to good to be true. But if it's not a scam then it's a great deal. If it is a scam then I can shrug it off (yes, I can shrug off $360, I'm going out of country for 8 weeks and I'm not paying for it.)

If it's not a scam I know what I'm doing with my money for awhile O_o; . . . and I assume I wouldn't be the only one.
