Im looking for a DSLR with mid res and fast shutter speed, not costing too much as im just getting started but something that can keep real for at least a year or two.

mostly used for skating motion shots.

any educated recommendations are appreciated

all amateur DSLRs can do 1/4000s, which is enough
all pro and most semi-pro DSLRs can do 1/8000s, which is more than enough

if you need EXTREM FAST SHUTTER SPEED and you're not limited by available light, get a Canon point-and-shoot, they can do up to 1/60000s with CHDK installed (though this isn't required for shooting skaters)

Not sure if troll or not...

But>>284426summed it up quite well.

Your best of starting out with a low end (previous model!!!! save you a hell of allot) DLSR, if you stick to it and enjoy it, you can always update later.

If your after skating, try the SLR on its own for a bit, but in the end your going to want to get hold of a flash gun, just for fill in and allow you to try out some new effects.

You could also have a look at Kenrockwell.com. I have learnt a lot from his site, but he is not normal and is often an idiot, so just keep that in mind and decide which bits to ignore. And his pictures will burn your eyes with their MEGA -SATURATION.
wikipedia should have a lot of info on basic things as well.

your best off getting a canon with a prime lens. (f1.8 or smaller) that way you will be able to utilise the light available. Although i own a Nikon, the D40/D60 doesnt auto-focus, so the prime lens would be useless.

if you dont understand that. then buy a Canon 400D or xti and a 50mm f1.8 lens- it will suit your purposes greatly.

1/4000 is overkill as fuck for skateboarding.
1/250 looks good, pic related.

Prob a remote strobe or hotlight, at f9 it would have to be bright as fuck to expose properly.

If you don't want to carry strobes / hotlights and stands, get a D50 or D70, and you can manually fire an external flash at any shutter speed you need to use. (With decent power too, unlike FP high sync modes)

Don't knock it until you've tried it.

my point was that in this case it's not the shutter speed that is freezing the action, it's the strobe
