>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>147591
NEVER! But do say what sort of boring shot I should have taken, the tilt is mirroring the angle of the plough and (artfaging) the contrast between the natural landscapes with flat photos created with the massive tilt for something man made!
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
>>147586
Damn, lots of potential in this shot, HOWEVER I don't like the framing (not because of the tilt even) Because the Red.. thing is dead center and the real interestingly lit landscapes in the background isn'tt as prominent as it could be.
The grass on the ground before the subject is really plain, and doesn't need to be there.

Other than that shot however they are a bit boring. Last shot looks like it would have been better in landscape orientation. Not sure how your monitor is calibrated but your bordering on the dark side too much according to mine.

/p/ is really lenient when it comes to Landscape pictures.
Butterfly a well hated user isn't bashed to shit when he posts boring landscape pics
yet Beethy posts a few decent to good (albeit similar, and heavily processed) shots of his girlfriend and shit rages for weeks.
PSKaught arguably one of the best lighting guru's around here, is scared away by one negative review (albeit a strong one)
Jens was heavily critized when he started posting pics with his 70-200 f4 (msotly people / candid shots) But back when he only posted landscapes he was well respected..

1. These are better than Beethy's work.
2. Butterfly did not come from DeviantArt and does not process her photographs like a DeviantArt user.
3. /p/ is misogynistic and aesthetically vapid (this goes for most photos posted here, too) and is prone to flame any female model who doesn't conform to the a Playboy-bunny-like build. Landscapes don't get it easy on /p/; models get it hard. And landscapes are easier to do tolerably than most photography.
4. Pskaught drew ire for four reasons: the false impression he's a working fashion photographer (I thought this at first, too: he's a 1 AC in the film industry, which if you don't know what that is, it means he manually focusing cine lenses without looking through a viewfinder as the actors move), how he wasn't keen to reveal his technqiues, personal dislike some users had for him (I really liked him, personally), and just plain jealousy.

I've defended you in other threads. You do good work when you're not skelatalizing models and applying distracting amounts of Photoshop effects. I've rather liked some of your work, just not the main part of it.

Beautiful colors and gives a good sense of the geography of the area. Seems really soft though. More so than one would expect from 1/1000th f/8.

>>147581
Okay, yeah, you already took this picture.

>>147582
And again. There's some sort of animal in the shot, but they're too small to really be the focus of it. Should've hopped the fence or enticed one closer with the promise of a treat or something.

Not bad, but kinda empty.

>>147586
Unnecessary Camera Tilt is Unnecessary. It's seriously making my neck hurt. Your picture is causing me *physical discomfort*. It's making my entire head twitch.

A better way to have framed this would have been to have gotten closer. Way closer. Fill the frame with the orange thing. Go for a dramatic angle. Get closeups. As it is, it's just "Here's a thing in a field". And it's pretty small in the frame, too.

This would be the strongest shot in the set if not for the UCT.

>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
Suggestions for improvement:
1. I know you think there's nothing in your area but fields, but there's gotta be someone taking care of those animals. They presumably have a shelter of some sort. Go take pictures of where people live.
2. Even better: Go take pictures of the actual people. Knock on a door and ask if you can take their portrait. Could be epic.
3. Get closer. Closer closer closer. "If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough." The one picture you have there that has an actual honest-to-God subject, the subject is dwarfed by its surroundings. And the camera tilt that's making my neck hurt just thinking about it. But if you were closer, I wouldn't be able to see the tilt.
4. Most of these pictures don't really have much in the way of a subject. They're good settings for photographing things, but not really enough to hold up on their own.
5. Please, please, dear God please, no more camera tilt.

When I was little I remember seeing a fabric softener commercial on TV. You know, the one with the teddy bear. From that I got this image of what a perfect out doors scene would look. Bright blue sky, puffy clouds, spacious field, etc. A real place to run screaming around, jump, roll and play.

The first picture looks uncannily like that.
>> Anonymous
Shots are technically ok, as in correct exposure, interesting lighting, good colours etc.

Why the extrem fast shutter speed on landscapes? I would have set the iso lower and closed down the aperture a little. You don't need 1/1000th+ for hand-held.

Talking about subject matter its entirely different:
>>147586
Only good one, even with the tilt. Possibly would have been better without tilt, but I can't really comment unless you post a non-tilted one.

The other shots are all BORING. They're what a child imagines when they think of a landscape. Yes the shots are well executed, despite the IMO strange choice of shutter/aperture/iso, but its just so bland. Its a series of variations on the windows XP desktop. If you want to do landscapes find a better location to go shooting.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>147713
But im supposed to be a landscape photographer! I dont really like portraits. Yes they are all pretty empty wide open fields, but thats all there is where i live.

The tilt rocks! I agree should have gotten closer in to give it more distortion too.

>>147831
ISO200 is the natural iso for the A100, they are all underexposed by ~1/2 a stop to keep detail in the clouds, they were all shot in jpeg btw (because yes, im a gigantic faggot)

you don't need a tripod for pano or hdr shots
so yea, do those later as well (mainly pano) if you plan on more landscape stuff
use more interesting foreground objects also
and rule of thirds is very handy with landscapes

I dunno dude, you're shooting at f/8 with a wide-angle lens, it should be pretty fucking sharp everywhere. Either it's your lens or your processing.

Then again, this is a slow-ass lens. Maybe f/11 would've been closer to your lens's sweet spot, in terms of critical sharpness.

Find out what the hyperfocal distance of your lens is. Infinity will still be in focus, but you'll have much more depth of field coming back at you.

These do look soft, but not in a bad way. For most pictures, sharpness really doesn't matter that much. The exposure looks fine; the ground is dark but it looks like its supposed to be dark. I'm not a big one for having everything have a "proper exposure."

The location looks like a pretty place to be in, and that can be seen in your shots.... but to tell you the truth, they're quite a bit boring and lack aesthetic appeal, or a bit of 'punch'. By punch I don't mean filters, although

>>147638
honestly looked kinda nice, but that's not the point. You should try working on your technique somewhat, and varying your framing more. In most of your shots, the horizon is right in the middle: boring.

Also, don't be afraid to push sharpening a little bit; DSLRs in general generate somewhat soft images, even though they provide plenty of room for postprocessing.

I'm not a sonyfag, but it really doesnt matter at this point: you have a good tool, improve your technique.
