resize, dammit

Crop half of that sky out of the picture, and cut the resolution WAY down. No sense having it be that HUEG.

Not bad, though, exposed well and surprisingly sharp. One piece of advice I'd give you is to shoot at as low an ISO as possible for stuff like this. Any shutter speed above 1/125 will freeze motion, so you have plenty of room to slow it down, and it'll help eliminate some of that noise.

However, this is another case where the subject matter just doesn't make for a particularly interesting photo. My advice would be to find a good angle where you can catch the touchdowns, as there's a lot of action there, and it'll also let you bring some background into the photo to make it more visually exciting.

thanks for the advice. I took about 350 shots in total when I was there so I got some reviewing to take care of.

Shooting a lot's never a bad thing, that's for sure. When I shoot action-y stuff, I tend to get about one good pic for every 20 or 30 shots, and that's after ten years of hardcore photography. (And on a GOOD day... I've done events where I shot a thousand pictures and got NOTHING that was usable without photoshop.)

As others have said:
1. We don't need all twelve megapixels your XSi churns out
2. Too much blank, boring blue

Also:
Some basic postprocessing (levels/curves, unsharp mask) would help this a bit. Unfortunately, because of the atmospheric haze you get shooting into the sky at that distance, there's almost no detail left in the actual skydivers, and you lose a bit more of what there is when doing a levels edit. So this quickie edit that I did leaves with you with a formless blob under the parachute.

(Honestly, I wouldn't have even bothered to post my edit if Firefox would let me delete the file from the upload box, but I can't figure out how to do that, and I'm too lazy to retype this. So what the hell. The trolls will enjoy pointing out how much I suck at postprocessing)
