Before the slr maniacs get on to me, this is for all their "side arms" the point and shoot's everyone carries, looks like they JUST got more valuable

we just got like 6 or so S5s like this, the manual focus on them is weird as shit. i dont see why they dont just put a focus ring on the lens.

FUCKING OLD.

I don't think it's possible without people ruining the autofocus motor. Of course they could make the lens USM ring, but then it'd cost a lot more.

>>1767401/60,000ths of a shutterspeed?

I could take that same picture at 1/15 even.

You need light for this, not EXTREM FAST SHUTTER SPEED

There are two possible ways even without USM, just like in SLR lenses: put a mechanical AF/MF switch that disengagaes the motor, or make the focus ring electronically coupled like on Olympus lenses.

needlessly complicate and increase cost for that 1% of people using point-and-shoot who want to manual focus

just get a real camera, geez

I know this shit made it to the frontpage of slashdot today, but it's still fucking old, plus there's been at least 3 CHDK threads in the last month

It's still a nice hack.

And pulling raws out of point and shooters could finally tell something about the actual camera quality, or lack of.

i only have an s60 besides my 40d.. fuck your hacks.

SUPER POINT AND SHOOTS > entry level dSLR's

This only applies to the kind of people that leave their kitlenses on. They really are better off getting nice quality point and shoots (not gay superzooms that are just inflated compacts) and we'd also RAAAGE a lot less.

What if you want to chance the iso/metering settings..
Can a powershot do it? I have no idea.

>>176841SUPER POINT AND SHOOTS > entry level dSLR's

still suck for low light, still suck for tracking, still slooooooow as fuck, still tiny sensor
>> Anonymous
>>176841
Not entirely more, but I see what you mean. That doesnt make them lesser cameras, just cameras less suited for their users.

I might try this on an old PowerShot A95 I have rotting in a box.

Still seems stupid in 90% of cases though.
Anyone who knows how to really take advantage of this probably already has a DSLR as well.

>Anyone who knows how to really take advantage of this probably already has a DSLR as well.

Or is too poor to afford one.
;_;

$25 every week and you'll have one in 5 months

or $50 a week in 2.5 months, whatever combination

>Anyone who knows how to really take advantage of this probably already has a DSLR as well.

Listen to this man...
I had a S3 before going to my XTi. I can tell you the fucking differece right away. SLR is SLR, even being an entry level DSLR the dynamic range is totally different, I wanna see some cheap fucking point and shoot doing the same portraits a SLR would make with a fast prime. With the same quality, bokeh and dynamic range. I dare you OP, you faggot. Also, old. Shooting crap with crap sensor and crappy lens doesn't help at all

>>176904
Well durr, the point is getting RAW and >15sec exposures and some other stuff for a $130 package. You don't really expect us to magically get crisp images and force our aperture to 1.4 by simply uploading a few KB to a card.

Can your SLR catch lighting automatically or run BASIC scripts?

POINT AND SHOOT FAGS UNITE!

SUPER POINT AND SHOOTS > entry level dSLR's

FUCK YEAH!
>> Anonymous
>>176916
...So? When people take awesome photos with their p&s, you're just gonna sage because "LOL IT'S AN SLR-REQUIRING PICTURE WITHOUT AN SLR CAMERA, SUCK MY DICK"?
>> Anonymous
lol butthurt
>> Anonymous
Christ, conflict much? Point and shoot fags and dslr fags, camera is a camera, its the photographer, not the camera that matters
>> Anonymous
>>177247
That only applies to everyone who has a P&S or everyone who has an SLR but it can't compare an SLR to a P&S. At the moment, I'm stuck with a P&S and I've found myself thinking countless times, "this would be nice if it had a shallow DOF" which is only possible at a macro level for my P&S. And don't get me started on low light.
>> Anonymous
>>177247
oh yeah, you keep telling yourself that.
then buy some really cheap and all auto p&s. then come here to give me this bullshit again
