Sup /p/

So after a few months of being really into photography, reading all I can find and finally saving enough cash for a camera, I got chance to take my first set of photo's. Picked out a few I like so I thought I would put them out to you most honest of critics here on /p/.

I realise that most of these are probally far from brilliant, but any tips or advice you can give would be most welcome.

I like this one the best

The rest are kinda meh except for the first one which is eh? First one is ok I suppose. Try doing some different post processing techniques with it to maybe get a different result.

Do you intentionally take pictures so that they're color themed?

OP Here

>>159910

It wasn't PP'd in photoshop, shot with Incandescent WB to remove the sunlight shining through. I orginally was just going to take it with a shady/cloudy WB. But when I got to the tunnel, which is an abandoned railway tunnel from 50 years or so ago, I really wanted to (try) and catch the rather haunted feeling it had. It went from still sunlight outside to approaching the tunnel, shade and howling wind. I attempted to capture this, but guess it failed. I didn't want to go all BW and "LOL INSTART" on my first set. But I know if people don't understand what I was attempting, I can work on that in the future.

>>159911

Agreed. It was only after I got back and looked that them in lightroom that I thought exactly the same to myself.

>>159915

I try to. One of the books that i'm reading currently I'm onto the section about colour, so it's kinda fresh in my mind. I just liked on these how the barbs had rusted to make it look kinda like dried blood, as well as the bush behind it looking like it was "organic barbedwire"

Adding another pic. Generic Landscape pic but I thought it was nice at least.

Half of these feel without a subject.

>>159890
No clear focus. Not that great.

>>159893
Nice, even color and saturation. I wish the snail wasn't DEAD FUCKING CENTER though.

>>159894
Very good. The clouds look painterly.
Compared to the rest of what I see in /p/ this is pretty exceptional.

>>159898
A bit cliche. Not particularly interesting in subject or angle. Perhaps if this was more of a closeup of the barbed wire?

>>159903
When I look at this I ask myself "Why am I looking at this?" and find that I have no answer. If there was a bird on top of the post this would be good. As it is, it is blah.

>>159906
Almost cool, yet still fail. The whole leaf clump should be in focus, and as a viewer I don't understand WHY this is interesting enough for me to be looking at it.

>>159959
I like the composition here, but ARGH WHY IS THE GROUND SO FREAKY AND YELLOW? Feels overly pped.

1. Take your camera.
2. Leave /p/
3. Learn basic photography and composition.
4. ????
5. Profit!

You've got a good eye, you just need some more practice. Do you know anyone who's been doing photography longer than you/professionals? If so, try and tag along with them for a while - you will learn A LOT!

>>159894- and I agree with everyone else, this is fantastic. The cloud detail is amazing.

OP Here.

Thanks for the advice all, next time I go out and shoot i'll really try and keep in mind to attempt to find more provocative points of intrest.

Still don't know what the idea taking a picture of a fence was.

flower photography = InstanTart

Since you're new, I guess it can slide but I suggest you go to a garden or park filled with many different flowers and take a hell of a lot of well composed close up macro DOF shots of them and oogle at how pretty they are then view all of their thumbnails at once and realize how monotonous it all is.

Honestly though, I enjoy DOING flower photography because I find it relaxing but I don't bother sharing all of them. Maybe just a few or just the best one but that's it.

As a hobbyist, whenever I go out to take photos, my priority isn't to bring home some good photos and post them on my Flickr but rather to have a good time and enjoy the world around me through a viewfinder and whatever good comes out of my memory card gets to be shared.

I'm sure everyone here has folders or a recycle bin full of bad or mediocre photographs.

Flower shot isn't mine, check exif data. But I get what your saying, I took around 150 shots and most of them ended up surviving for around 5 seconds in lightroom before I hit delete. I guess we all have our own motivations for why we want to shoot. Ultimatley I do think we all want to share pics we like, otherwise why not just look at the world through a little carboard sqaure, would sure be cheaper. I guess for me I want to try and capture things in a way that makes people say "Hmm, I never saw it like that before". But of course I know I'm very much a beginer still, with a lot to learn still. I'll enjoy learning, or go bankrupt in the process. Probally the latter.
