Could /p/ post samples of any and all 28mm primes that will fit, even with an adapter, on a Nikon F mount? I mean actual 28mm, not 28mm equivalent, to clarify.

I'm trying to decide on one. I'm very particular about the "look" a lens makes, which always makes shopping for one difficult. Reviewers (with a few exceptions) tend either to endlessly wax poetic about "Leica glow" or some other property (like Zeiss's reputation for having more depth of field than other lenses) without actually describing it, or just shoot test charts, with few actual photographs showing how the lens behaves.

Thanks.

Besides the photographer, the lens is the most important factor in determining how the final photograph looks. I want to select the one that best fits how I want my photographs to look. Why's that idiotic? I know of four 28mm Nikkors and two Sigmas alone. I'm sure there's at least going to be a couple more Nikkors.

outside of pbase there aren't many places that would cater to something like this. Not to mention, sample variation and usage variation makes such a thing kind of silly to ask for.
The only thing you can *really* do is poke around to make sure something isn't clearly a total dog and just buy lenses.
If you like it, keep it, if you don't, sell it. If you're really worried about buying crap, make sure you get things for cheap enough that you can flip them for the same or more money.

First try this http://www.naturfotograf.com/lens_wide.html

Then go to the Nikkor Flickr group at http://flickr.com/groups/nikkor and they should have a listing of the main lenses on the page. Click on any to get all the photos tagged with the lenses.
