so theres this airshow in a couple weeks I want to go to

the only telephoto I currently have is a 70-200, which is a bit short for airshows, actually.

So I need lens advice. I have about $500 to blow and I need something 300+. At least. The 80-400 would be ideal but its not something in my price range.

Alternatively, I was thinking of just going "fuck it" and buying a used 10.5 fish and seeing what I could do with that

300mm handheld? too ambitious for me

I was at an airshow earlier this summer with only a 135mm and actually did quite well.

That 200mm might work out alright.

Or are you going to be pretty far away?

I got a 100-300 F4 Sigma for about that, and couldn't be happier (Nikon mount).

Fast and long = $ no matter how you shake.

Bring and use a tripod at the air show so you can crop if you want. Save the 500$ until you have enough for the 100-400L IS. The newer versions of this lens are supposed to be excellent.
