so i'm thinking about shelling out A LITTLE dough for a decent camera. i'm not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, but i do enjoy taking pictures of pretty much everything. i'd like to have a camera that allows for nice shots without a lot of professional knowledge (i do know a few tricks).

what would be a good "starter" for me?
i was thinking the rebel xti-i don't think i've got any use for more than 10mp.

Ken Rockwell is 10% accurate fact-based information (his Nikkor lens chart, for instance) and 90% random shmuck with a website who doesn't know what he's talking about but thinks he does because his photographs don't come out totally technically botched.

You'd get better advice off of /p/, especially from ac, on all the technical workings of photography.

Hoods are an obsolete throwback to simpler times.
