Hi, this is /p/. We offer constructive artistic direction. It's effective.

I know how you feel :\
Im going threw that phase right at this moment.

When I know I should be going out and shooting, I psyc myself up beforehand, but looking at photos I've already taken, and then other peoples photos.
This usually inspires me for the whole of 30 mins, by which time i'm out, and have no choice but to love my trigger.

Hope this helps.

so your birthday present from best buy isn't exactly what you thought it would be?

return it and go buy a longboard or something you trend following faggot.

Fail. I've probably been shooting before you were even born.

I have to say, this helped. I got a new Nikon F I have yet to try out, so I'm going to hype myself up and give it a spin tonight.

Yeah, buying new stuff helps for me a lot, too. Fun to have a new toy to play with.

at first I thought I was looking at some crappy photoshop job, then I realized it was just a puddle.

when I hit this a year or so ago, I nearly stopped shooting at all. Then i completely switched gears and photographed something totally different than I was used to shooting, It gave me something new and different to learn, gave me new motivation and new ideas and it improved the rest of my photography along with it.

For me, instead of buying something new, it's a matter of trying something new photographically.

Best of luck to you.

Another idea is to try doing a photoyear. Just force yourself to take a picture of *something* every day. Yeah, lots of 'em are going to be crappy (pic related, my day 166), but you'll be out taking pictures, and it'll make you a better photographer.

Just don't punk out halfway through like Heavyweather did.

Certainly, that's what a drastically different lens does is force you to shoot differently. But I think you're right, deciding on a different subject forces you down different paths, whereas a new lens may leave someone feeling stuck, shooting the same style/subjects. Not always enough difference to break out.
Basically just have to pick something new and stick with it a bit. A new subject helps a lot because then you're (anybody) actively learning lots of new technique, which gets you shooting a lot more, rather than just learning a new piece of equipment.
Artists run on frustration.

Eat a bag of dicks.

But yeah, I fully endorse this idea. I epic flailed on my 1picaday thing when my computer gave up.

Oh I see, you're saying I should've just shot film? I would've, but I don't have any money, nor a scanner, and at the time, no functioning computer. So it still fucks the whole onepicaday blog thing. Money is really the issue here. :/
