Sure, you can't control whether or not the sky's gonna give you good lighting. But you know what you could have controlled? Whether or not you posted that poorly-lit photo to a photographic criticism board.
These photos are pretty much crap. They might be interesting on a board dedicated to planes, but this is a board dedicated to photography qua photography. Doesn't matter how cool the plane is if the photo of it sucks ass.
Take this picture I'm posting, for instance: It's poorly lit, it's blurry, it's really not a terribly interesting subject. What's the best way to crop it? To crop it to 0x0 pixels. Throw it away, 'cause it's not worth saving.
There's no way you could've cropped your shots to make them not boring.
