Hey /p/, i'm sick of all these people in my school who think they're hot shit photographers. Here's a website of a girl that I think all of her shots are terrible and she's charging for modeling shoots even.

She's actually rather good. A few of those shots scream "teenage girl," like the heart ones, but it seems she's technically competent and has a good style overall.

Her weakness is her portraits, but that's mine, too, so... yeah.

Agreed. There's a lot of win on that web page. Although:
1. She isn't so good at keeping her horizons straight in a few of those shots...
2. Holy shit that's some obnoxious HTML
3. BMP? Seriously?

Agreed. Someone needs to tell this girl about the wonders of PNG.

PNG isn't so good for photos/complex colours, you should know that, JPEG ftw

Why not?

PNG is just as capable as JPG in terms of color reproduction ability, it's just a hellofalot bigger because it's lossless. So if her goal was to save the files with no loss of quality (even across multiple edits), PNG would have been a fine choice.

However, I'm guessing she just picked bmp because it was the first thing in the list in the save dialog.

All right, that's good. For my own raw-to-non-raw use, I use PNG, so I was worried for a second. Others usually want JPEG, though.

Question: which is a better format to save in, lossless-wise: TIFF or PNG? I don't know anything about TIFF, so I haven't used it, but I know some cameras shoot in it... so, yeah.

if youre posting something for people to see, just save it as a max quality jpeg. you wont notice any difference in quality, but itll still be a lot smaller than a png. just keep a copy of the original if you want to have a completely lossless copy around. this is true for photos because you'll never encounter the reasons that actually make png better than jpg. (other than the fact its lossless)

TIFF is an old lossless format. It's sort of outdated though.

oops, my mistake, i *ment* to follow the argument of compression size, not colour accuracy.
thats where i ment jpeg is better suited for photos in this situation than PNG, not saying PNG is bad, just its xbox-huge.

>>43066
i wouldn't quite go saying its outdated, still used extensively, just maybe you feel you dont need to use it?

This girl is good, but her portaits are so so, and not nearly good enough to charge people for.

I was GOING to mention how making money for photography is more about marketing and less about talent (Non photographers probably won't be able to tell the difference between 2 marginally different shots, so unless its utter crap or oustanding most people won't notice)

BUT then i followed the link and holy shit she sucks at marketing too. That webpage layout is horrible, And Some of her shots are out of focus and unprocessed, and well boring... Very Clicheish, but still fails mostly at that...

But still, Marketing! You won't make any money if you don't charge, so I don't blame her for trying!

I can't believe she's trying to sell her artwork with shots like these.

Everyone has to start somewhere.
And as with everything, particularly in the art world: if you convince people you are great, they tell other people you are great...and you become great.
Also; stock photography = bread and butter income.
