All Canon SLRs can take AAs when using the battery grip.

Thanks, but don't you have to pay I think $130 to buy those things? I think they attach to the bottom of the camera.

Yes, but they balance the camera well, give you an extra exposure button (very useful for when you're shooting portraits), take (rechargeable) AA batteries, and give you a lot more shots between recharges. That last part is very useful if you use an IS lens, use the LCD screen a lot, use the built-in flash, or are taking a lot of pictures over the day and don't have a chance to recharge your batteries until the end of the day.

Nikon D200 and D80 can take AA with respective battery grip. D70 and D70s can take AA with third-party grip.

You realize that an SLR will go an extremely long time on a charge, right? I usually go about a week between charges on my Rebel XTi.

same with my D40, and a full charge only takes about an hour and a half

why the hell would you want to use AA's in an slr anyways the lithium batteries last a lot longer and are cheaper in the long run anyways

I've shot over 400-500 shots on a single charge and not seen the battery meter go down on my XT, as long as you're not sitting around staring at the pics on the lcd all day you could easily exceed what the manual says the battery life is imo (which for the xt is i think 400 shots with half flash half no flash and like 600 shots with no flash?)

A100's lasts about 2 days of medium shooting + viewing so doubt it would have problem with a days worth of heavy shooting. doesnt take AAs tho.

He might've been looking for something he could use in some place where it might be difficult to recharge batteries.

If I was some overseas photojournalist, or working in similar conditions, I'd want a backup body or a battery grip that took common AA batteries.
