Why does Canon insist on using .mov when .mp4 is superior in nearly every way and comes without Quicktime AIDS?
>> Anonymous

Because by this statement, you proof that you know absolutely nothing about video at all.

This camera is gonna be hot shit.

Can't wait to get my hands on one.
>> Anonymous
>>261098

MOV is a container format like AVI you dumb shits!
It has an H.264 MPEG-4 stream inside it when you shoot on the 5DMkII. All the .mov means is that it's guaranteed to play in quicktime. ALso it will open natively in FInal Cut Pro and that's a standard.

Why do we have two threads about this video?
>> Anonymous
>>261189
Because having one thread where /p/hailures pretend they know everything about video because they shoot with a crappy dslr or a point and shoot is not enough.
>> Anonymous
Does it have audio input for an external mic? If not, then it fails.
>> Anonymous
>>261212

... yes it does
>> Anonymous
>>261212
even if it hadn't you could still use an external audio recorder.
that wouldn't be the problem if someone wants to use the camera for sophisticated movie shooting... but yes it has.

What kind of ultra-fag buys a DSLR to shoot video?
>> Anonymous
>>261224
art fags and /p/
>> Anonymous
>>261224
Actually you buy this DSLR to take 21-megapixel noiseless photos at ISO 3200, and then have this added bonus of stunningly smooth low-light video performance that pretty much outclasses everything else out there.

But yeah it really is just for ultra-faggots, a glorified Holga if you will.

I will be selling my 40d, 17-55 f/2.8, & sigma 30mm f/1.4 to buy this motherfucker

Gonna keep my 50 mm f/1.4 and use it as my walkaround FUCK YEAH

and then get the 35mm f/1.4L FUCK YEAH

i realize the quality for the price is absolutely amazing

but check out the behind the scenes videos on vincent's website

they're using pretty elaborate rigs and equipment to pull this off

but yeah, the quality is great

I'm not gonna sell anything to buy this motherfucker.
I'm just going to use my 50mm 1.4 and 35mm f/2 that I already have and for both of which I paid $200.

Oh and 50mm, IMO, is not a walk around length. 35mm is. (On 135 film or equiv). But that's just my preference.
>> 50 øre !!NM5mwCa2Qiu
>>261311
Still, it performs better than the XH A1 which costs even more and is a pure video camera. Unless this camera performs awfully bad with stills in low light, then holy crap I'll buy it even with Norwegian prices (almost $5000) or just get one off the US. Even if I almost brought my poor self on financial ruin when buying the 17-40 f/4.0l
>> Anonymous
>>261311
>>elaborate rigs and equipment
Bullshit. The only elaborate 'equipment' is the helicopter. Otherwise they just used a car-camera clamp (Can be hired for about 45$ a day) a TV screen for flickering lights (Most people have a TV), and one strobe with modelling lights turned on (Any simple light + dimmer would've done.).
If you think that's elaborate, then you've never worked on a video production. Even 30 second shorts are usually shot with more elaborate equipment (three readheads, reflectors, gel filters, steadicams, cranes, etcetera)
>> Anonymous
>>261418
you mean $200 each, do you?
>> Anonymous
>>261423
No, I mean the 35 f/2 was $150 and the 50 1.4 was $80 attached to a body.
OH SNAP
>> Anonymous
>>261428
what 50 1.4 is that, a shitold one?
my 50 1.4 USM cost 255 euros.
>> 50 øre !!NM5mwCa2Qiu
>>261431
that's in europe, america has a shitty economy and as a result everything is practically free. example: 5dmk2: $2k and £2k.
>> Anonymous
>>261431
you bet it's shitold. It's a Super-Multi-Coated Takumar from back when Pentax was a big manufacturer, competing with Zeiss and Nikon. It's also entirely made of metal and is just as sharp as my friend's Canon 50 1.4.

<3 Takumars.
>> Anonymous
>>261422

he's using gyro stabilized clamps and tripods

those can't be "hired" for $45
>> Anonymous
>>261439
ahhh good ol pentax glass. Takumars are fucking sex. thinking about pentax always makes me a little sad, because they know how to make a damn fine lens even to this day, but are intent on killing themselves.
>> Anonymous
>>261418

both 50 and 35 are used as walkaround lenses, 50being normal, and 35 being wide.. right now i use my 30mm f/1.4 as my walkaround and prefer shooting at the normal length, so that's why I foresee myself using my 50mm as my walkaround lens on a FF camera.

shitty, annoyingly hip video. This is perfect proof that better technology just leads to more shit.

what panning problem?
>> Anonymous
can the 5d mk2 continue to shoot as long as you have memory left on your card or just it shoot in limited "chuncks"?
>> Anonymous
>>261467
12 minuet chunks for HD
But you can record on smaller resolutions.
>> Anonymous
>>261470

isnt this just going to nerf the sensor after heavy use?
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
sooo the D700 or this....

:/
>> Anonymous
>>261472

fuck dude. Do you have to ask?

you already have the d300 and the d700 isnt really an upgrade in much else but the sensor. the 5d is an awsome camera and so i expect the 5d mk2 will be great. im not sure if you will use the film mode but im not really considering that in the choice.

i have a D300 and i wouldnt definatly go for the 5d mk2 over the D700. I cant see nikon coming out with anything coming close to the mk 2 in the next year or so.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>261477

uhhhh yess.... let's ignore the video mode for a moment.

Aside from the 21MP count over the 12 there isn't much else the 5DII has in terms of specifications over the D700. Toss in the video mode and slight price advantage then everything fuckin changes. But it's not really a clear cut choice, it all depends on what you want in camera... and i'm trying to figure that out because none of the two are exactly what i'm after

I'm waiting to see proper image comparisons between the two before i decide. I need to print large, but it's debatable whether the 21MP will be better for it.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>261477
Also you can get adapters to keep on using your Nikon lenses on the 5DII.

I think a 12 minute "chunk" ought to be fine. You can count on one hand the number of films that have shots longer than about 2 minutes, let alone 12....and until digital cinema, 15 minutes was the absolute maximum that you could have because that's all the film that would fit in a reel.

No you can't shoot with it like a camcorder. Treat it like a 35mm movie camera that can use probably more than half the photo lenses made in the last 40 years, and make some cinematic gold.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
>>261485
it's all good in that regard, i'd probably just sell my nikon gear to me girlfriend, the D300 + 17-55 + 50mm 1.4D + 105mm VR.

There is the slight advantage of me staying with Nikon since i'll be able to use the Macro and 50mm, but it's not that big of a deal, I'd definitely pick up a 24-70 of either system and prob a 70-200.

I would forsake DSLRs and go purely into Digi-MF, but that shit just aint versatile enough yet.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>261492
>Digi-MF, [...] aint versatile enough yet.
Leica S2. DO IT, FAGGOT.
>> Anonymous
>>261472
Keep your D300, it's good enough and you won't have to get anything else except a Mamiya or the view camera.

>>261557
This is suddenly the best option for most DSLR users with $23,000 to spare. But I'm pretty sure if he's looking at a sub-$10,000 Mamiya, a $23,000 camera isn't in budget.

But if it is, DO IT, FAGGOT.

(Note: These are USD, no clue about Australian dollar equivalents.)

anyone else think it looks like the model has mean cameltoe at 0.33 :P Also for those who dont want to use the shitty website to view,

anyone else notice the cars going backwards in the helicopter scenes?
>> Jeremo
>>261557

hahaha, in terms of budget the LF would be the cheapest since it's be around 7000 total to get everything, new too.

There's no price point with the Leica yet right? and for 25,000 i'd get a Hassie.

>>261568
Yeah i may do that, but the D700 would have just added extra versatility with high iso performance... but is it worth the trade in with the lenses and all that...

fuccccck, decisions, decisions.

And i wish i was buying the shit 2 months ago, back then the aussie dollar was almost on par with the greenback..,,.at like 98cents... now it's back down to 78... FAIL
