First game of the season.

It's the 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D Nikkor on my 5D.

Straight out of the camera, I'm exhausted, just finished ingesting the photos, and I was so stunned that I had to post a few.

I want to like... steal this lens.

Some of these will definitely get cropped and toned, but the raw frame, vignette and all, is just so so nice.

Wow, congrats on these pictures man, they're awesome. Love the composition on the first one with the Front and back DoF and the Cheerleader ones scope is just sick.

Where exactly were you standing? Those are some nice closeups for 200mm.

I shot from all over... the first pic is on the right side of the goalpost, about five yards from the in-zone.

It's funny, all of the coolest action shots are of fucking Colt McCoy. This dude is a beast, and always does cool shit. We can't ALWAYS run a pic of him though.

This is my favorite dismay shot... but it'll never run, because we won, and completely dominated them. In fact, other than sort weird starting turnovers, it was a pretty unremarkable game, we just smashed them every time. It would be a lot better to photograph a closer game. More emotion.

I also shot with one of the paper's D200s and a 300mm f/2.8 AF-S. The AF-S sucked shit on it for some reason though, and would just stop focusing intermittently, maybe like... 10% of the time. Not too bad, but I could do without. The 80-200 on the D200 had no problems focusing. I'm thinking dirty contacts. Those cameras have passed through hundreds of hands before falling into mine.

This would be better if the kid was black and had Urkel-esque glasses.

These are decent, but you seriously need to lay off the fucking vignetting. I know you think it looks cool, but I assure you it doesn't.
>> Anonymous
>>245846
I think the vignetting is due to the lens, remember that 5D is full-frame.
>> Anonymous
>>245851
I doubt it. Its a high quality lens that should be corrected for that. I had the 80-200 f/2.8 AF-S and there was no vignetting on film. Besides heavyweather always adds fake vignetting to his crap.
>> Anonymous
>>245826
That shit is sweet man. Which ones were taken by the D200 btw?
>> Anonymous
>>245852
Shot with the 80-200 two touch before, and it always vignettes even on my D80, so I think it's more pronounced here.

Yeah dude, I didn't add any vignetting.

It'd be a lot cooler if ya did, heh heh heh!

Nah, I shot with a monopod for most of it, as did Jeff. I took mine off near the end of the game to lay on the ground, don't know why Jeff was handholding at that moment.

My d200 with a 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5 Nikkor does this too. Friday night I was shooting a local small concert, and my whole thing just stopped auto focusing, and it was too dark for me to manual focus. It pissed me off. I'm not even sure what the problem is. Batteries in everything was okay...

I love the lense, it's just the auto focusing can suck my dick.

My whole experience iwth the d200 hasn't been terribly great. When I shoot raw, it absolutely drains the battery, the auto focus with the lense is sketchy. That being said, the d200 with my lense and flash have just amazed me with their ability to get skin tones so precisely.

Frankly, you can trust Nikon gear. The same goes for high end Canon gear. It's reliable. It's sturdy. It will take the abuse that goes with professional rigors. You can pick up a Nikon every day, and use it, just like you use a tool. Hell, you can drive nails with old Nikons. That's the quality we're talking about here.

When you make your livelihood, you don't choose the brand that offers an equivalent, even similar system, you choose the brand that is a trustworthy and time-tested tool. Thus, Nikon. There are always distinctions to be made between Nikon and Canon, but I've often heard this statement, and I believe it: Canons are the best cameras made by engineers, but Nikons are the best cameras made by photographers. It's a generalization, but that feels very true to me.
