The guys facial expression is...odd.
I really like the gritty feel of this, might I ask how long the race was.

OP here...

Yea it was a weird one, it's really tough to even try to pick 1 specific person to focus on since I don't have the experience haha.

Hmm... looked it up and it seems it's 650 miles long. 8 day race, not sure the exact mileage of the day. I'm sure it was very long though. They did like at least 7 or more laps around this one area that was 1 mile long, and that was just the ending :P
>> Anonymous
why not focus on the pack of people in front of the guy you focused on?
>> Anonymous
I really like this OP. Great sense of motion in it.

>>182635
I think the focus is good as is.
>> OiD
I liek

Agreed.

I think it's a great shot OP
but that guy's expression really kills it... I tried to blur it out, but did a pretty rushed job of it..... maybe if you spent some time on it it would look better.
The issue with this is that you lose any kind of focal point, but I don't think that's a problem since it's such a chaotic dynamic photo anyway.
Might be my personal preference though, lemme know what you think.

one of the better pictures i've seen here in a while. i would have like more crowd on the right -- the one guy looks a little lonely over there.

excellent angle, framing, motion blur -- did you pan it?

also is there any need for this to be black and white?
>> Anonymous
>>182697
You're such a faggot, you completly ruined that picture. Photoshop is not the solution to everything. The expression is absolutly fine, its a 650 mile race, I think people are going to look exausted like that. If anything that expression is the best part of this photo.
PS: This is not going to be personal opinion, you need to stop thinking you can make everyones photo better.

>>182734
I wouldn't say completely ruined, but I like the OP's much better than the shoop. The blur beethy did matched the other riders. Technically its a good shoop.

The problem with the shoop is there's no longer the tension between sharp and blurred that the OP had going. With the OP's my eye would wander between the dude in focus and the rest of the pack. With the shoop I'm like "its a picture of a bike race, next" and don't want to keep coming back to it.

OP: Great shot. It's nice to see some cycling photography here, and it's a genuinely good image. This wouldn't look out of place in Velonews or Rouleur.

My one critique is the tone. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is straight grayscale, right? That is, not toned in any way. It's just a matter of personal preference, but I really thing b&w looks better if toned in some way. I guess it's a holdover from my silver printing days.

Anyway, here's a version of your shot toned with the duotone I use for all my stuff. I like it better this way, though you may disagree. Just a matter of personal preference.

OK two critiques: the second being the suggestion of a little edge burning. I hope you don't mind, as I really hate modifying other people's images without their permission, but here's the above with a bit of an edge burn to emphasize the peleton.

I love how /p/ is littered with so many idiot assholes that don't contribute shit to the board other than shitty pointless complaints.
Seriously, get the fuck out :]

When was the last time you posted a decent photo thread faggot? Just because I don't use a name for anything but my photo threads doesn't mean I don't contribute anything.

Thinking you're gods gift to every photo posted on this board does nothing but shit it up.

I actually read through Beefy's references. All those posts look to be made by dickwads that don't know what an opinion is.

Maybe the problem isn't that you're not contributing, maybe it's that you're making shitty posts that don't really provide any help to anyone.

I would crop out the guy in the crowd peering over from the right.

If there was more crowd, it's one thing, but since it's only him it just looks cumbersome. Otherwise, I think the picture is fine - including the focus point.
>> Anonymous
>>182697
you're too stupid for words. the contrast between the sharp and unsharp elements is what made the photo. the expression added to it. it brings emotion into the photo.

you had to insert your stupid into the photo by blurring the focused cycler. now that everything is a blur, what's the eye gonna focus on? how can you be so stupid to think that the lack of a focal point is not an issue?

people call out your stupid and you start bawwww-ing. how bout you stop being such a gaping vagina.
