ITT: Protips for Self-Portraits

Preferably for self-portraits NOT in a mirror/reflection of any sort. Also preferably something more than "self-timer/remote." Please :)

OP here:

rube goldberg device would be sweet.

also, I have a self-timer, I'm just looking for any suggestions to make a quality self-portrait other than the obvious "use a self timer" etc.

Get a friend to take a pic of you, then kill your friend, erasing his identity.

Therefore, the portrait becomes a self-portrait as nobody took the picture.

ok then, maybe try using a tripod.

and having yourself in the picture would be good too

brilliant. I would have never considered those things. I'll go try those now.

Throw the camera in the air and take a load of photos via remote.

what's wrong with a remote? You can hold it rather subtly in one hand, and with mine you can even set the timer to 10 seconds after you use it so you can just drop it or something before the pic is taken.

Pic related. Oh, the subtleness.

3)???
4)get Self-Portrait per mail.

I saw this one cat that would hand over his camera to random people on the street and instruct them to take pictures of themselves with him in the background...thought that was clever...

1. Come up with interesting idea for self portrait
2. Use interesting idea for self portrait.

What sort of advice exactly are you looking for here?

I've actually taken some really nice self portraits in mirrors. But the mirrors are in really random places like backstage at comedy clubs so they turn out pretty well. Also using a 100-300 to do it with its 2m min focus is quite a strain on my arms!

Found this on /p/

Reflecting sphere a la M.C. Escher

I'm thinking about ordering a sphere to do this myself.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA

That shot sucks. The ball's all bumpy instead of nicely spherical, the hand isn't quite in the right position to match the Escher drawing, and you can totally see the camera in the back of the room. Fail.

I was just going to ask how the hell he took this photo without the camera in the reflection.
>> Anonymous
>>89180
Calm down ac, I'm sure that guy is just a huge fucking faggot, unlike you of course, cause' you're awesome, not like that ass in the picture.

I finally figured out who it is that's lurking on /p/ in the guise of a certain namefag. I knew you looked familiar. Except he changed "AB" to "AC." Thought you were gonna trick us, Al, didn't you.
