Astrophotography? Anonymous
anyone into astrophotography? I think its pretty cool and it gets pretty clear in the sky sometimes where I live (1440 feet above sea level so its not bad either). But anyway without some sort of motor tracking telescope, or tripod. I can only really take these star trails.

Also they seem to be a bitch to correct afterwards in photoshop, so if anyone knows what they are doing could you give me a few pointers on editing this raw pic? (full size on purpose)

thanks

I am routinely well above 11k feet.. my house sits at 7k. my daily commute has a vertical elevation change of more then you're pitiful excuse for "above" sea level. silly flatlander.. find a mountain range.. something with vertical of over 4k feet

who says you need to live on a mountain to get night shots? you just need to live somewhere not close to a city and have clean skies (like NZ, where i live lol)

i think the noise filter in photoshop has made it a little too soft

Lol if thats a d50 that you took that pic with, the Pink shit is a common problem with long exposures and then post processing (raising brightness)
If you edited my pic at all you would see it aswell (OP)

Thats a good pic though how did you take it?

its taken with an early(ish)series D70.

i pointed my tripod up to the sky, only 30sec exp at f/3.5.
even in NZ, if you look with your naked eye on a clear night, you can actually make it out almost like the pic.

I love this picture, but how did you manage to get this result with only a 30 second exposure time? I have taken plenty of pictures with 30 second exposures and never achived this effect.
