studio experement 1 anonamaus
taken at the school provided studio. im experimenting with surrealism, and im not realy sure how the results are. they seem fine to me, but i dunno, something about it is bothering me. i think it may be the camera. i didnt use one of my cameras to take this picture, this one was taken with a mamiya 120 slr, one of their hassleblad clones. its a nice camera, but i dunno, it just seems to clear.

same sculpture different angle, i do like how the sculpture itself came out, but again, something is bothering me about the picture, maybe its just how it appears on my comp, i havent made full prints of these yet. but again i think it might be the camera.

again same shoot, but this time i used my speed graphic, with the self timer, the self timer isnt quite as good as the rest of the shutter assembly (its the original kodak anistigmat and shutter assembly) but the picture itself just seems to speak louder, maybe its the positioning of the light source. or the scanner, i dunno, but the picture itself seems better, (aside from the jpg artifacts of course.) its also got a mild double exposure effect because of how the self timer fucked up. so what does anon and /p/ think?

maybe its too bright?

Definitely too bright.

You should know that your lighting is full of fail. Experiment with your lighting. Cross light, rim light, whatever. This is kinda boring at the moment. And it's too bright.

For instance, on the third pic, the image of the (soldier?) stops right when the lighting's gone. Get some exposure on the shadow side. 1 or 2 stops down from your main light might do the trick.

i wasnt using flash, i was using hot lights, none of the cameras i use regularly have hotshoes or flash synch, in this case my light meter was having trouble reading it, and i think a lot of it has to do with what i did after i scanned the images into the comp, and i do normaly forget to stop down, so that is a good idea. ive always had trouble with lighting :/

Balance your lights, then you should do fine. The subject is too interesting to be lit from one angle.

same shoot similar lighting, different angle and different sculpture. messing around with contrast in gimp, im positive thats the problem with the ones i posted first, as i havent realy run them through a photo editing program, so the balances are all wonky.
