That is bad banding, the d80 was supposed to be more resistant to that than the D50 or D70s (because of their electronic shutter)Take that camera back and complain about the banding, get a new one

it's not the camera that takes bad pictures its the photographer. learn to work within your camera's limits and you can take good shots too.
