How good is this picture from a photographers point of view

PS its real
>> Anonymous
that hand looks really fucked up
you need to get a better hands filter that lens or use the hands setting on your camera.
other than that its OK.
>> Anonymous
For photojournalism it'd be fine. For art, not so much.

Remember, photojournalism = reality, but art = your vision.

From an artists view, its not hideous. Composition doesn't blow, colors aren't distracting or anything.

Photojournalisticly, its good, but it would've been great if you got whats shooting him or be able to tell what the hell is going on in the picture right from the get go.
>> Anonymous
What is happening in that scene?
>> Anonymous
need moar info on the pic

Its a good shot. I want to know more on what's going on. I'd like to know why he has 1/2 a hand and looks to be spilling out his guts at a basketball game.
>> Anonymous
Is this that European dude who went to school and shot aq bunch of kids? Looks like it's from some movie though.
>> Anonymous
considering the writing on the chair and on his jacket, i'd say in israel or in a jew meeting somewhere maybe.
Obviously , i'd go for the suicide bomber thesis since he seems to have a detonator in his left hand. Probably the bomb failed or maybe it is an enactment since ppl doesn seem to be that shocked ?
Am i right, op?

>An explosive device was thrown next to the court during a league basketball game in Jerusalem late Sunday, wounding a security guard.

Someone threw homemade firework into the court and the security guard picked up.
>> Anonymous
No, this is a Jewpoliceofficer who tossed himself over an IED during an Isreili blacksketball game aboot two days ago.
Saw that on the BBC.
Epic shot, fukken saved, fukken drunk.

its fucking awesome!
a photo that tells a story this good and shows it this clearly/graphically is very rare and should be valued

holy fuck... i only just clicked the actual photo... didn't realise his hand was blown off... have you got a newslink?

So the guy was trying to save everyone else or something? man... epic indeed
>> annoyingmouse
facts:
1. He is not a police officer, but a privately hired security guard.
2. This was not a terror attack or even some criminal act - just a basketball hooligan throwing a fire cracker to the court.
3. Israel rocks at basketball.
4. picking up a firecracker with your bare hands while the fuse is smoking = STUPID.

http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f8c_1194944539 here is the movie on live leak! It was a firecracker, he lost 3 fingers but they stiched them back on.

Judging by that video, the photographer who took the photo must have had inhuman reactions. The guy hit the deck immediately after the explosion, so I have no idea how this guy caught the moment with a photo.

>>91381

Luck and plenty of FPS?
>> Anonymous
Whoever shot this is getting a lot of money for it.
>> Anonymous
>>91358
holy shit is one of his fingers sitting next to him in that video when he's on the floor?
>>91381
hmm, I dunno, if you see in the pic, everyone is staring RIGHT at him, so it was definitely enough time to turn and shoot. It probably went off and this is before he fell to the ground.

It's not like it's mid-explosion and you can see his hand ripping apart, this is after it was all over.
>> Anonymous
>>91385

Depends. If the photographer is a freelancer, then yes. If they're working for a publication, no.
>> Anonymous
>>91356
It's Israel. It NOT being a terrorist attack is more news than it being one, and the guard had no way of knowing whether it was just a firecracker.

>>91381
>>91383

Or maybe skill?

Seriously, FPS is the most overrated feature on cameras. People did just fine with Speed Graphics.
>> Anonymous
>>91471

People did "fine" with Victorian technology too.

>>91478
You're missing the point. Photojournalists shot some of the most iconic pieces of work on cameras that required reloading the film after each shot. The goal isn't a thousand passable exposures; the goal is one image that portrays and communicates the situation.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>91486
Photojournalists have shot some of the most iconic pieces of work on cameras with power winders and high-FPS digital SLRs, too. It's possible to take great images without taking advantage of modern technology, but it's a lot easier to take great images with it.
>> Anonymous
>>91494
That's true, and I'm not saying go back to that slow of reloading. My point is two-fold:

1. Shooting really, really fast composition can't be as careful as shooting, say, a frame every 1-3 seconds.
2. It's best in most shooting situations to wait for the right frame to come up. Play around shooting some to get into a rhythm, but there's no reason to make that rhythm akin to techno music.

>>91495

For sports and action and often photojournalist types, high FPS is a godsend for getting a difficult moment. More shots isn't a replacement for skill, but any technological aid is always welcome.
