lol seal protests

this one was great because the seal protest overlapped with an anti-war protest that was occurring in the same park. Eventually the seal guys just left.

First one is good, others suck ass. Excluding the first, these all lack engagement with the camera and have various severe compositional flaws. The lighting in all but the first is also pretty flat and boring. Engagement with the camera is a huge issue. Eye contact can make or break a photo, and if you're making a photo in which there won't be any eye contact, you have to make up for it in other ways. Just a random photo of someone staring off into space while walking down the street is rarely interesting.

This was my first time shooting street so you can credit the lack of people staring into my camera to a slight timidness on my behalf.

OP
i'm pretty drunk right now, but i do like your photos after my initial response
i think you're an excellent street photographer
>> Anonymous
Beethy likes anything with vignetting and contrast :P

These aren't bad photos but unless you want to start analyzing the old lady sitting in light on the stairs wearing white while the surroundings are dark, there isn't very much in them.

Is street photography supposed to be just snapshots taken from the streets? I thought generally normal "rules" for an interesting photo still apply.

Still, keep it up, OP, technically good work.
>> Anonymous
Do you get odd reactions when you photograph people on the street? I mean, how do you go about doing it?
>> Sicko !L3HRY/miC.
>>141525

I think the point of that one is the "No Loitering" sign, which is a bit too small sadly.
>> Anonymous
>>141456
I dunno, these are still pretty far from a Winogrand.

Closer, Faster and be better. Most of them are like taken from across the road. Some are just people walking and doing nothing interesting in particular. Why should these photos be remarkable? What makes them memorable (other than a pretty face here and there)? Where are the actions, reactions and interactions?
>> lrf !xi8/JKFwzo
These are great, far, far better than any of the CoS photography. Well done OP.

huh?

OP here, thanks for the critiques guys. I'll try and focus on making more interesting compositions and just generally getting closer next time I shoot.

I'd really like to do street photography, but in my experience I find that everyone stares at you like you're doing something heinous as soon as you take out an SLR in public.

Also I never know what to do if the person I'm taking a photo of notices that I'm pointing a massive lens at them. I usually just pretend I wasn't pointing at them and then leave asap.

I'm a pussy.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
>>141628

"hey, can i take your picture?"

it's far easier and works much better than you would ever expect.

or, just take their photo and keep walking.
>> Anonymous
>>141628Also I never know what to do if the person I'm taking a photo of notices that I'm pointing a massive lens at them.

pretend you're just waiting for them to walk by because you're trying to get a shot of something behind them, just stand still and stay behind the camera

works every time

QFT. I used this technique today to great effect.

If you're a reclusive geek like me, it requires you to get out of your comfort zone, I know. I'm a pussy too. It took a lot of willpower. But it's worth it.

One of my goals for this year is to get more into the habit of doing that rather than lurking in the shadows with my stalker lens.
