So what are the main differences between a Pentax K1000 and an MX?

I'm seeing lots of K1000 and not many MXs, is it just less popular?

iirc, better build quality and DoF preview
It was a higher-end body than the K1000, so it cost more, and they made less of them.

Ahh ok, so long as I didn't get the K1000's shoddy, inferior cousin or something, thanks.

I don't think pentax made any must-avoids during the era
The only one I can think of that is only sort of want is the ME. It's only aperture priority, it is well-enough built though and makes for a nice small throw around body. The ME super is an improved version and also offers manual shutter control, but I think it's fiddly. Like rubber buttons? It's been a while.
