I could see how it could be useful, especially for graphics people, but in photography I can see two problems:
1. Artistic portrayal. You know media whores are going to want to resize images in this way for all display sizes. It's not the same. It looks realistic, but it's not the scene the photographer captured.
2. Creative process. I'm all for editing of a reasonable sort, but there's something to be said for the sort of craftwork that goes into making a photograph the traditional way, whether in digital or on film. For many, this will replace composition and that "select the plane of focus in post-processing" thing we discussed in another thread will replace focusing.
