the lens flare just ruins it. the silhouette of the guy is nice but i'm sure there's some angle or aperture that wouldn't have produced that blown out, cancerous light.

Yeah. I was going to try different angles and crap but oh shit, the cops showed up and threatened to take me to jail for the night for taking pictures.

Funny, I remember someone posting a thread on here like two days ago asking about /p/'s run ins with the cops and before tonight, I never had a cop say anything to me about taking pictures.

sux2bAmerican?

in south africa you're more likely to be stabbed by some opportunistic criminal than be stopped a cop. in fact, i don't think we have laws against taking photos except for the usual private property and reserved trademarks shit. if it's visible from public, it's fair game.

>>290338

yeah>>290340, that's what the law is in america but a lot of people (sometimes even cops) don't realize it's not crime and violate the photographer's rights b/c they don't like ppl taking pictures... I think this thread should now be about our rights as photographers.

One of the first things I did after I bought my first camera was to look up the law on photography, as it pertains in Australia at least.

I know I can photograph anything I can see from a public area, given that it's not CP, and I know that I don't have to delete any pictures I've taken while on private property, like a mall, but it is polite to stop taking pictures when asked and persisting to take pictures of a person who's asked me to stop could be constituted as harassment.

Also, Assault and Battery against my person is not allowed, under any circumstances. If someone wants me to stop taking pictures then they have to ask me, and if I refuse then they have to call the police. If they touch me, I am allowed to defend myself, simple as that - and that goes for security guards as well. Only police have the lawful ability to physical remove me from private property for taking pictures, and even they don't have the legal right to delete any photos I've already taken - that constitutes destruction of evidence, a very bad crime in the eyes of any Judge.

Know your rights, and be prepared to defend them against the ignorant.

On a few Austalian photography forums I have seen this discussed, and there is a .PDF with a summary of the related law(s) floating around. It was suggested that photographers take printed copies with them to give out to those who question their right to be in public taking photos.

Australian police can use laws such as creating a public nuisance to move photographers on though.

True. You have to pick your fights carefully, but knowing the law, and precedents, can help if you ever end up in front of a judge, or negotiating a settlement.

Yeah. I like what>>290386said though about printing a bunch of papers with your rights on them and hand them out to people who complain but i'm sure if I handed this to Officer Bacon he'd flip a shit on me and put me in jail for the night as well as take my camera and erase my pictures.

I mean, yes the d00d I guess had a right to come up and ask me wtf I was doing with a camera at 2:30 in the morning but threatening to put me in jail for doing no harm was a little over the top.

Knowing the law wont help you fellow britfag...

The law states, its ok to photograph anything or anyone in full view of the public, without permission. UNLESS the subject in question falls outside the norm for public places (this means you cannot go take photos of a car crash where people died, people fucking in a park, shit like that).

Knowing any of this wont help you though, the police seem to not know the law, but the police are only part of the problem, its the fucking PCSO's that are the biggest problem, i have a collection of pink slips from stop and search's, I'm known and hated by just about every rent-a-cop security guard in my town simple due to me refusing to give up my rights, and more ofthen than not, calling police if they continue to talk to me once ive informed them of the law and told them to go away.

Its a fucking pathetic state this country is in, and that fucking ad campaign telling people that people with cameras are terrorists dont help us at all!
