Get the 55-200 VR instead.
* It's a better quality lens along the 55-200 range than the 18-200
* Your 18-55 kit lens is probably about the equal of the 18-200 along the 18-55 range
* You'll save a shit-ton of money

The downside, of course, is that you'll have to occasionally switch lenses if you want to go from wide/medium-tele to medium-tele/tele.

I keep my 18-55 IS (Canonfag here) on my camera most of the time as my general walking-around lens. If I'm indoors or in poor lighting, I alternate between my 35/2.0 and 50/1.8 depending on my focal length needs. If I'm driving around and want to take pictures from my car, or if I see a cute girl through my window at work, I stick my 80-200 f/4.5-5.6 on there.

Best lens ever. You will sacrifice your first born in its praise.

That made me chuckle hehe. I need a long lens too.

Goddammit.
Just, dammit.

Why is this dragged from the fiery pits of Hell every other day?
I swear I'll post a pic next time i see a D40 AND/OR a 18-200 thread.

Picture highly relevant. (Taken with 18-200 that I'm selling in order to get 35/2 and 50/1.2 primes, since I have access to 70-200 VR by now)

Anyway, do what ac said, REALLY, REALLY

On a side note, in my country 18-200 is actually the cheapest zoom one can get (still maybe 2x the price of what you pay for it in US now that dollar is dropping down)

Yeah, and I need a better one. Pic related.

(Part of the problem here is that I'm shooting through my tinted office window with some glare on it, though)

I dont really use it that much, but its straight from that to my 50/1.8 and 100-300 so its the only one thats useful for walk about.
