Hay /p/

Do these two different apertures in the 135STF lens affect the image quality in any way, other than that the one with more blades yields smoother bokeh? Is one faster or something, or do both close in on special situations or wtf?

Why the hell would you need to Aperture rings :|
research timeeeeee.

There's a great website all about the 135 STF (some pretty obsessive shit right there), but I don't remember the URL.

tl;dr: google it

That thing produces a more creamier bokeh than the 85mm 1.4. I kid you not.

the lens has an internal filter that reduces fstops, whereas the depth of field isn'affected: that's why you canhave an apetrue of f8 with a depth of field of f2.5, for example.

Oh fuck, wait, does it even have a manual aperture control ring?

They said it's stepless, meaning you should be able to physically adjust it. There's no stepless aperture adjustment dial on any SLR I know of, Sony or not.

I've never heard of one, but I'm sure you could make one. However, I think the Minolta mount is shallower than Canon, so you'd lose the ability to focus to infinity - which you probably wouldn't need with this lens anyway.

I'd love to put this thing on my Nikons, but its 900ish price is a bit too pricey for me now.

one aperture is stepless. meaning it doesnt click into each fractional stop. you can make the aperture be anything between the min and max. you arent limited like other lenses where the aperture can only be at set sizes.

Yeah, it's fucking pricy. For the money, I'd want a faster prime like the 35 f/1.4, but then I'm a PJ, and don't really give a fuck about creamy bokeh.

Where the hell is it $900? Both amazon at sonystyle have it listed at $1200...

Also, damn this lens looks fucking great (albeit a tad expensive). Kinda makes me interested in the Sony system. The bokeh looks fucking delicious.

So if this thing has two aperture rings, with one having a minimum of f31 and the other a minimum of f6.7, does that mean you're kinda fucked if you wanna have a large DOF?

Hey, Sony has potential in the dSLR market. They're just starting out which is why they have what, 5 bodies? Not counting KM.

If you're shooting this lens and you want wide depth of field, you're Doing It Wrong.
