Pro:
You included the ruins

Cons:
Blown sky
Subject is too far to the side of the frame

Shut the fuck up.

He's right you know.

that's the reason why we have something called "rule of thirds" and not "rule of quarters", idort.

Go back to art college, fuckheads.

Awesome shot anon.

>>119169
Subject doesn't always have to be front and centre. And yeah a polarizing filter to make the sky more blue might have been cool, but I guess its a bit late for that.
>> Anonymous
I'd say he looks like a fine, respectable gentleman.
>> Anonymous
OP here, I was originally going to centre the man, but I thought it would make for a more interesting shot if he was off centre, and bring more attention to the background and its context. Though to be fair I've never had any education on photography so I don't really know much about composition.
>> Anonymous
>>119234
You did well OP. It's usually a good idea to throw the subject off center.

Composition's fine. Don't listen to the "Rule of Thirds is the Way the Truth and the Light" crowd. I think it would have been better if you'd gotten the tour guide facing towards the ruins rather than off camera.

The main problem is the thoroughly clipped sky. Not sure there's a good way you could have saved that with an S70 though other than photoshop trickery (i.e., 'shop in a better sky from a different picture)
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
>>119179

there is a rule of fourths. you divide the frame into four sections, like a window pane, then place your subject(s) inside one (or more) of the panes.

I know it's not perfect, but after I heard those brilliant ideas I just HAD TO try it :)

Mountain edge is way too visible, and I suck at clone tool (see area around shoes).

Also did some tweaking on color levels on the green area around the dude, sky is somewhere from 2nd-3rd page when I googled "sky" lol

OP here again, I'm suprised that somebody actually took the time to photoshop my picture. Not the greatest of jobs but I like the fact that you took the effort to do it. Any other recommendations on what could be done about the sky? (preferrably in photoshop rather than something I should have done while taking the picture)
>> Anonymous
>>119327
Try to play a bit with color curves and levels to expand dynamic range a bit, so green is actually green without that "neon blue halo" you get on cloudy days. (for reference, compare the trees right behind the dude)

As for the sky, well .. since there's none because it's all white, the only real solution would be to do what ac said but seriously (ie, not with some bigass cloud from internet as I did). Take it out and put something else in place. You could just take a shot of the sky with your camera on a nice day without clouds so it's more uniform and easier to work with.

Or, you can go there again and take better shot in nicer eather and with a polariser.

Of course I had to try this "edit op's shitty pic" thing myself too.

Over 9000 hours in mspaint.

PS. Op's camera produces hideous images. Even a 30-year-old $5 film camera with basic 50mm lens produces miles better quality than this.

Don't listen to those anonfags, dude. There's nothing wrong with your composition. They're just the types that think you can learn photography from a text book.

machu picchu tour guide is a pretty cool guy, eh carries a big stick and doesn't afraid of nothing.

I think you did pretty good with a P&S. Interesting subject, exotic locale. Edit looks better, need to learn to resize for the web.
