is it really that surprising?

resize, slut. we dont need 4 million pixels of your stupid face.
>> Larisa !SLaO9myFhM
>>149259
not my face.
ktnx for being a dick.
>> hal9000 !a4fa8BKGtQ
>>149245
It's not all that compelling. The shallow depth of field directs my attention to the eyeball and some arbitrary strands of hair to the right. Unless it says something in the context of a photo set, I'm going to assume this is somewhat pointless.
>> Larisa !SLaO9myFhM
>>149267
your attention is supposed to be drawn towards the eyeball
thats what i was going for
i like using shallow depth of field
wayyyyyy too much.
>> dlc
>>149261
We don't need 4 million pixels of ANY face.
>> Anonymous
well lets judge your picture for what it is then.. it's blurry, some areas are blown, and the DoF sucks.

i could go on, but you wouldn't listen anyway.. just stick with your kit lens and sap a decent board's bandwidth with your boring, mediocre shit.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
Eyeball closeups are pretty much done by everyone who gets a camera that has the ability to focus close. They're pretty run-of-the-mill.

Got anything else?

Blown sky, shitty composition, again with the blurry, and learn to keep EXIF while resizing.

Good day.

It's pretty cliche.

The colours seemed pretty washed out, and I would crop it a bit.

Go outside, take photo's of something interesting. Or, if you like taking pictures of people, get more than their eyes.

Irrelevent point: Same eye colour as my girlfriend.

Neat building. Neat statue. Fairly mundane picture of them. Pictures of Art are rarely art in and of themselves.

Anything else?

my dog
i couldn't get her to stand still for longer than a second
and the lighting in my kitchen was crap.
>> hal9000 !a4fa8BKGtQ

I'm trying to figure out how one might make the best of this situation, as you lost all shadow detail as well as the highlights being somewhat blown out. Following the old "expose for the shadows, develop for the highlights", you'd absolutely lose the background, I think. I'm not too skilled in photoshop, so I'm not sure what could be done there, either.

What would a pro do, /p/?

Pets and babies = NO NO NO NO

Even with the "artsy" depth of field your shiny new dslr allows, pets and babies always scream "amateur" and "snapshot" (simultaneously).
>> Christopher !LQd6JHwoaQ
>>149318
pics are a bit too small to be worth trying some shooping on.

Agreed.

And since you seem to be hitting all of the standard I-just-got-a-new-camera cliches, In b4 flower closeup.
