/p/, tell me.
What do you think of the Sony Cybershot DSC-T70, in general?
Super steadyshot, 8.1 MP, 3 inch LCD touch screen, etc.

The smile shutter has to be the most retarded feature I've heard of yet.

I'm only using this camera for general purposes, nothing special.
However, I was also looking at the Olympus Stylus 790SW, because I've been down to South America and I plan on going again, so I would enjoy the waterproof and shock resistant features, but that would be in the future.
So I would have no use for that now.
Would the Olympus be better, anyway?

"To detect the different degrees of smiles by your subject, you can set Smile Level sensitivity to “high” (to detect a faint smile), “medium” (for a normal smile), or “low” (for a hearty laugh). "

I agree, not the best thought out feature.

Despite being common, there's so many compacts and so much variation from model to model in a line it's impossible for most people here to comment on a specific one unless they have it right now and something to compare to. You'll get mostly general info. Your best bet is to scour reviews from people who see many of these and are then able to compare them better.

I've seen newer models perform worse than the older ones and cost more. Especially when some go too far with cramming more megapixels into a sensor and boosting the noise as a result.
