Hey guys,

I'm looking for a replacement to my F100 and was wondering if anyone has experience with Sony's Alpha range.
I was considering buying this model:

Cheers guys.

Yeah a couple, I mainly borrowed what I needed from my uni's lab though.

Every time I've tried one out in the store, the Alpha just felt breathtakingly sloooow to me (at least for a dSLR).

If you have/have-access-to Nikon-mount lenses, why not get a Nikon dSLR?

Nikon DSLR's that I want are all reeealy expensive

Buy Nikon D200 then. It's a very good camera and if you have already load of Nikkor lenses, why not? :)

Sorry, I forgot AUD are different than USD ;-) Oops.

D40 is good & affordable alternative, it's very small and lightweight, so it's easy to carry around. Only problem is that they removed internal focus motor so you need autofocus lenses, AF-S or AF-I. Manually focusing all the time sucks.

Okay, but Nikon dSLRs that are comparable to the a100 are about the same price as the a100

You should be able to get a second hand one, but thats dodgy as some can be well used. What camera were you looking at? D200 or the D80? If you are lucky you can still find a D70s thats still going at a cheap price. http://www.cameras.net.au/ has some secondhand digital are a cheap price. Good luck!

If you are going to get a d40, and you have lenses, save money and just get a d50 body. Besides d50s can use lenses with out autofocus, and they arent targeted for the market of n00b soccer moms

I use a Konica-Minolta Maxxum 5D, which is one of the precursors to the Alpha, and it's pretty nice. The system has some affordable lenses of good value (70-210mm f/4, for example) and the in-body image stabilization is a nice feature, but if you've already got Nikon glass that you're comfortable with why switch camps?

Not really, this A100 has a 10 megapixel sensor

D80 comes into my mind (witch has the same sensor)

1. Ten megapixels isn't really *that* much more than 6, all things considered.
2. Nikon d40x is 10MP and cheaper than the a100.
