Hi /p, here is my flickr account. Im working on taking more pictures of people rather than industrial things. I take a lot of subway tunnel pictures in NYC but I got arrested for trespassing recently and also had a near death experience down there, so Im gonna stay above ground for a while if not forever.

Enjoy

Sorry to hear about your travails.

These are seriously some of the best photographs I've ever seen posted to /p/.

Seriously, keep up photography, though, even if you don't want to go back underground. You could genuinely be one of those great photographers people talk about off the interbutts.

Power plant? Well hell there Mr. Fucking Terrorist!

These are seriously good.

Even if you don't go underground again, don't stop taking pictures.

OP here, wow Im shocked /p! I thought I sucked : /

Subway tunnels, or at least a lot of them can be extremely dangerous. I got chased out of one by track workers only to be greeted by two cops at the next station. So now I have to go to court in July :(

I will always do abandoned buildings though. At least there isnt a train barreling through them at 35mph!

My ex-girlfriend has a crazy mad scheme to get into this old abandoned ship docked just south of Buffalo (with me coming along as photographer, of course).

(This crazy mad scheme involves asking the current owners politely, so I think it has a fair chance of working if she can figure out how to get in contact with the current owners. Less chance of us getting arrested, too, which is a bonus)
>> slim !yE5LOsLjxQ
yeah these are really, really good. like i can't look at them because i'm wondering what the point of trying to learn is when i have no idea how you did any of that.

grr i'll never be good

wow... Op is good.

Kudos to you sir.

Lovely photos. Very well done.

Btw, if you love something don't stop shooting it, or force yourself to go to something else. Just keep going with what you feel compelled to shoot. sorry about the near death experience, though. Have to be careful with the tresspassing

Never going to happen. They'd be liable if anyone was injured. They'd have to draw up a liability waiver, or have their lawyer(s) look at one you present to them. Either of those options costs them money.

So, basically- you have to either pay those costs, or give them something in return. If it's a corporation, maybe they'd like good headshots of their execs, or photos of properties they own.

If they're considering putting the ship for sale, they might be happy with a large number of photos that document the condition of the ship for a possible buyer.

Suggestion: approach them and say, "we'd like to take some photos of your ship, but obviously liability is a concern. We'll sign waivers. What can we do for you in return?" If they say, "dunno!", come back with some suggestions.
>> angrylittleboy !wrJcGUHncE
Yeah, you can try asking them nicely if they'd allow you to shoot within their premises. One of my friends was reprimanded for shooting in the train station, but the guys were kind enough to suggest to him to get a permit so he can shoot at their train depot.

It kinda takes the fun out of things, but it'll be a whole lot safer and hassle-free.

Very nice pics, btw. :)

To the OP: a syncrotron is used to measure the phase angle between a generator set and the grid. When the needle is centered, they can safely connect the generator. Otherwise, the generator and switchgear is damaged.

Question: do you have any other shots of the rackmount electronics that said "HELLO" on them? I'm very curious about what it was, where it was, etc. The shot had very little depth of field so I couldn't figure out what it was.
>> Anonymous
>>52760

The thing that said "Hello" appeared to be some sort of network device. Those pictures were taken in an abandoned power grid switching building. This building was however fenced in on the property of an active power plant. I'd assume that this device allowed the active plant to have access to the controls within the old switching building back when it was still on the grid.

Picture on flicr is the only one I have, I wish I could make out the red logo on the right.

Its a syncroscope not tron :P

I liked your picture so I asked what the experts in /v/ thought of it. I hope you don't mind that I didn't give you credit, but, y'know, this is 4chan after all. The whole website is based on copyright infringement (fair use, lawl).

I think overall it was well received in /v/, but not all thought of it as highly as I did. For example:

>Looks like Max Payne level design with some lighting effects.
This was one of the comments. I don't think it is a complement, but I'll let you be the judge.

Before going into the tunnels you need to get the key to unlock the dispatch room and reroute all of the trains. Or you can just use the NOTRAINS cheat. Google around, I'm sure there's a walkthrough on the Internet somewhere.

/p/ is on fire today! I love you, dude! Another like-minded individual, this is great. I love your street photography, I like a lot of your low-light stuff, and I'm ambivalent on the industrial stuff. It's just not my thing, so I won't comment overly on it.

if you go into a dark tunnel and get hit by a train when the route is in use its called ......... NATURAL SELECTION.

OP here, you can hear / see the fuckin train just gotta act quick and get on the other set of tracks! The near death event that happened to me was when I got "double pinned" by two trains coming in opposing directions, so I had to be between them. Luckily Im a skinny kid, but that had to be the scariest moment of my life.

>>52827hahahahaha!!! Thanks for the lulz

Max pane lighting, hmmm, ironically I am a theatrical lighting designer, but I can't say I lit this tunnel

Must've been hard to get away, what with the clanging of your HUGE BRASS BALLS.
>> Anonymous
>>53126
While I'm not disputing the OP's ballsiness, I don't think he -chose- to be stuck betwixt two trains and then get chased by a cop.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>53130
No, but he put himself in a position where he'd have to dodge trains and cops.
>> Anonymous
OP here, I just looked at my nuts and they are infact _not_ made of brass.

>>53130

Well I kinda chose any outcome considering I chose to run to the end of the platform and chose to jump onto the tracks :( Didnt get caught that time-somehow!!! but I sure as hell was white as a ghost for a week

/p/ trolling /v/? On MY 4chan? Next time you look around, we're gonna steal their get. (To stay relatively on topic, I saw a demo of a 3D fighter game, where the objective was to take snapshots of the opponent's panties. It was Japanese, if you had any shadow of doubt about this.)

And well, what can I say, OP wins massively. I too crave to go and shoot abandoned stuff, and there is indeed a number of lovely places around my town (it used to be a strong centre of textile industry, but virtually all of it went bankrupt years ago and the halls are standing as they did - go figure). Too bad I lack even a fraction of OP's balls to trespass and shoot there. Not to mention common sense reasons, like lack of partner to go with, lack of cellphone to call for help should anything happen, and last but not least, lack of tripod and wide-angle lens. Having done a fair share of hiking and alpinism in my time, I'm not really willing to go easy on safety concerns. So I'm left to suffer. ;_;

Picture - outside view of one of the places. Crappy low-res scan, because the picture itself wasn't worth anything better.
>> Anonymous
>>53177

Its all about location. There are some places that dont have security and are isolated where you can walk around and have fun. And there are really dangerous places too.

Most places so long as you arent stealing things and so long as you didnt break in . . . and are just there for the pics, you'll just be asked to leave.

Yeah keep that in mind. . . Everywhere Ive been the door was open. I've never broken into a building or a tunnel.
