This is probably a stupid question, but are all those old film non-SLRs with leaf shutters as quiet as all the modern little digicams with leaf shutters?
>> Project !dashI8UpO.
the little digicams are quieter cause the rangefinders still have a mechanical switch.

Basically
SLR's = kachak
Mechanical Rangefinders = Click
Compacts = (barely audible unless it's against your face) tick

Not quite because of the bigger leaves involved, but they'll still be a lot quieter than similarly sized focal plane shuttered cameras.

Isn't the Mamiya 7 focal plane shuttered, though? I may be remembering wrong...

okay, no. it's a leaf shutter too. that's good, because they're quieter, more accurate and freer from sharpness-robbing vibration than the primitive cloth focal plane shutters of the smaller format Leicas.
