I just dropped my Canon EOS 30D and EF 70-300 IS USM lens on a concrete. And the moment my heart stopped for a couple seconds. It wasn't long drop, but still a drop (40cm).

Luckily nothing broke. Just couple scratches to the body's and the lens' plastic parts.

Eugh, that sucks. I've bumped and jammed my camera into things, but never outright dropped it before. Glad to hear it's okay.

Just after buying my 20D I had my friend holding it up while still attached to a tripod (tripod wasn't extended, legs all tightly together) and his pants started to fall because of serious belt malfunction, he goes to adjust his pants and make sure they don't fall - slam. The camera falls on an external flash witch breaks and then falls on the stock lens. The autofocus LOCKED (manual was still fine) and wouldn't work, I freak the fuck out, threaten to kill him more than once but then decide to just turn the grinding autofocus back and fourth and CLICK it works again, no serious damage, all is fine.

All in all, dropping shit sucks. My heart isn't something I like up in my throat

Well, it was because of the camera strap. It got stuck and my grip let go.
