Yes, rain, I mean fucking rain, the first day, and cloudless sunny over 30 fucking degrees the next.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
it'll be fine, my D70s used to get rained on all the time.

Let it dry before you turn it on again.

This is why you're a Nikonfag.
I had my D80 about a week.
I arrive in Chicago, see this big art piece.
Think to myself, 'ohh I'd like a close up of those lights'.
Walk up to it, take a few shots, get closer.
Look round and people are looking and laughing at me.
Rather selfconsciously, not knowing why, I ignore them and get closer.
Then boom.
Right on my camera.
I mean, right on my camera.
A year and a half on, after numerous collisions with concrete from various heights and several rainy nights, it still works like a charm.
Pic very related.

i've spilled several beer cans over my d200, afterward i've just poured water over it. no problems with it, to date.

if your camera skills with the d200 are anywhere near as good as your skills with that point and shoot you took that picture with, i wouldn't worry about it. just throw it out. throw it all out.

I don't get it. Is it one of those photo realistic artworks that create an illusion of really being there or something? Show me more photos of it or point me to some info on it. Looks cool.

I had my 40D out in the rain recently, and it still works.

I spent last weekend shooting (er one shot) with my 7000. Treat gear like crap, who cares.
>> Project !dashI8UpO.
I spent a lot of money on my gear so I'd rather be careful with it.

True to a fault.
If it's raining outside and you want a photo, don't miss it, thinking your camera will break when it comes in contact with water.
Don't not take it when you go climbing for fear of dropping it on a rock or something.
It's nice to know your camera can take a beating. It frees you up more to concentrate on the photos.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>301705
basically what
>>301712
is saying is spending lots of money and caring makes you a gearfag not a photographer. The camera and lens is a means to an end, you should be willing to risk those tools for the shot.
>> AmbientAlchemy !!7p/FL19nuol
Will you buy me my a new D200 after I spearchuck mine at a charging bull?

I mean, I really think that shot has potential.

>spending lots of money and caring makes you a gearfag not a photographer

Unfortunately, I don't have the option to spend less money and not care. I also don't have a large enough income at my disposable to make me care less about my gear. Photography is an expensive hobby. Yeah, film is expensive too. I'm just being sensible. Cameras are just tools to some of you but what kind of craftsman doesn't take care of his tools?

And prosumer Nikon digital bodies are certainly not the nail bashing professional Nikon film bodies.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>301728
taking care of your tools is not doing this
>>301726
Babying your camera because the rain might hurt it makes you a gearfag. Using your camera to drive nails makes you a nikon.

I don't mind banging it around a bit or taking it where it might get dropped easily (hiking, climbing) but one thing I won't abuse it with is rain.
>> Vincent !!8LCSE0Zp1mL
first week with my D300 I went to Tofino and got absolutely soaked. (D70 aswell)

Took an hour the next day letting the camera's dry out in the sun, there was condensation inside every one of the lenses I used. and the D70 LCD.

I got quite a few good shots that day though!

What I have learned from this thread is:

when i go to buy a camera i will throw it around in the store and piss on it before buying; that way, I will know it can handle real world conditions

Vincent you have/had a D70? You are my favorite photographer here on /p/ and I was wondering if you had any tips or suggestions for a new D70 user.

I still have it, its my IR camera :)

Shoot RAW if you can, the camera has a real limited Dynamic range when shooting above ISO 400 and Raw helps to save it. If you shoot Jpeg, shoot in color mode III, it looks soo much better color wise.
Make sure you have the latest firmware too, they fixed a lot of the issues the D70 had that the D70s fixed.
Flash sync is godly on it, 1/500th, and if you put tape over the 2 parallel flash pins (on the Sb-600, or SB-800) you can manually trigger the flash at any shutter speed. (this is way more efficient than the FPS that newer camera's have)

It also has a really weak IR filter, so putting a hoya R72 on your lens can yield some pretty decent unconverted IR pictures.

Other than that not much, pick up the usual cheap 50mm f1.8 (I would avoid the f1.4 its more expensive and softer)
