For Pentax and Nikon cameras, one multiplies the 35mm length by 1.5 to get what it is the equivalent of. For Canon, it's 1.6. For Olympus and other four-thirds systems, it's 2. I don't know what it is for anyone else.
So that 18mm is actually 27. Still pretty wide, but not quite as wide.
