Sup /p/, just bought one of these. Got it mostly for when I do people, but what are some creative uses for these things? Preferably in wireless mode. Has to be photography related <__<; Though, I suppose at some point I'll get around to setting it off in my room mate's eyes.

I would consider simply the inclusion of a peripheral flashgun when doing people to be a fairly creative take on the act.

Hmm... so thats what theyre calling it nowadays...

No homo.

So you're saying that most people just use the flash straight on the camera for people? I know they could bounce or diffuse it, but still... That seems... boring.

Oh people use that a lot then? I'd think there are more common toys to use when doing people. I thought maybe bringing a flash to such a party was a creative act of yours, but it seems that I've been living in a cave and flashing lights are actually commonly used as elements of arousal, from what you're saying.

Quote versatile the Sb-800 is

Use it in commander mode, as a commander, as a remote master, as a remote slave.

Fun to be had.

One question: I haven't figured out how to use the wireless without firing the popup flash. Is it possible to use the flash wirelessly without the popup? I don't want the frontal lighting a lot of times, even though I can dial down the power.

What a clever soul you are.

What camera do you have? though it doesn't matter, unless you have the SU-800 you can't use CLS without the pop up flash.

Though i don't really think it's a problem since i haven't noticed any great contribution to exposure from my pop up

the popup flash has no effect at all your exposure

try it

wrap black paper around your wireless flash, fire your shit in a dark room

your picture will still be pitch black

I have a D300. If I get the right cable can I just wire it up and use it off camera without the popup? Doesn't that give you the FP flash modes, too?

Not unless you are using iso1600 or so, but if you are shooting shiny stuff, like cars, glass or whatever, there will be a reflection from the pop up flash. The reflection from the slave is pretty easy to get rid off by moving the flash.

But the RC system uses Ir light, so you can by a SG-3IR witch is basically a little IRfilter witch you mount to the hotshoe, it filters out the visible light from the flash so it wont affect the exposure or give any reflections. You can also use a hand in front of the flash (if your not holding the flash with that hand of course), duct tape also works for covering the flash, but remember to put a little distance between the duct tape/hand and the flash so you don't block all the light.

That SG-3IR sounds like it's just what I want. I'm gonna look around for one.

the minolta wireless system is superior.
>> Anonymous
Too bad the system they work on fucking sucks ass. Sony cameras and glass blow. I'd rather just own an X-700 than any Sony (or even Minolta, for that matter) digital SLR.

of course you can use a sync cable, but the it wouldn't be wireless :D

Heh, I know that :P I guess what's important to me is off camera use; I could care less how it's achieved.

Does the SB-800 have a major advantage over the SB-600? Planning on getting a flashgun myself.

the SB-800 will set fire to black paper held on the front of the lens when on full power?
