I like to think of photography as something that can't be lumped easily and accurately into categories.
Much like everything else that people try to apply labels to, the meaning of them changes / crosses over many other meanings, and are intangible by nature (and language).

Photography as Art, can also be photography for documentation, journalism, or many of the other "genre's" of photography that we have labeled.

Its all in taste. OP just seems to think his taste is better than ours because of his psuedo intellectual definition of his preferred genre.

Engineer here. Engineering is one of the most underpaid professions when comparing education. On top of that, it's treated (at least in the US) like a blue collar job. There was a survey in IEEE spectrum a while back and it asked engineers if they had to do it again would they and also if they would recommend eng to sons and daughter. The response was over whelmingly "NO". To make matters worse, most people with eng degrees do not do creative work. There much more work in configuration control, or documentation, test etc. And there are almost no jobs. I am sorry I ever got into it. I will have to go back to school and learn something new.

One person's view on art, while correct, isn't the only view. Art is subjective, and its meaning is really relevant to whoever's enjoying it.

Never said it was "big money", but compared to 90% of the jobs you would have gotten with a fine arts degree it's significantly more money. All of my non-engineering friends who graduated from the same school in the same year are earning between $36k-$56k.
