Hello, /p/. I was kindly redirected here from /g/.

Anyway, I'm looking into buying an analogue Hi8 video camera. Could someone recommend a model with at least an S-video output and stereo audio recording capability?

Any of them made after the year 1998.

You're really better off finding a D8 camera unless you need a higher-end feature that isn't on any of the D8 models. (There are a lot of high-end Hi8 cameras but only consumer D8 because sony was pushing like five different video formats at the time).
D8 is DV on 8mm tape instead of MiniDV. The good D8 cameras will let you push analogue Hi8 through their i.Link port, if you've got old tapes already shot.

This is true. If you want to shoot stuff easily, get a D8. Hi8 has nicer grain (Analogue ftw), but that might not be reason enough to not go for D8. Hi8 can be a bitch to transfer.
D8 camera plays hi8 tapes without any problems too, and you can capture it the same way as D8 tapes. (No need for i.Link)

Actually, I have a DVR to capture analogue video from, so I thought I wouldn't really need to shell out more money for the more expensive D8 cameras.

And yes, I do have a bunch of the older Video8 (not Hi8) tapes. Would the D8's i.Link output give a much better result than capturing over S-video?

Yeah, I don't know what kind of DVR you have, but yeah.
