Well...

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0802/08020102tamron1024.asp

I was about to go out and get a Sigma this weekend... but now i may just have to wait and see how this Tamron performs.

...but i do wonder when it will be out, if it's a few months i'm probbaly gonna get the Sigma.

Ya i'm intrigued aswell... F3.5-4.5 would be nice and an extra 4mm on the Sigma...

The 16-85 VR looks like a decent lens too, I might replace my 18-200 (sigma) with the 16-85 if the street price is reasonable (Nikon quoted 650, which is ridiculously high)

I also wonder why they put $650 on it.. it's just lil' shorter 18-200VR

on the other side, that tamron might be interesting to get (for nikonfags at least ..)

Yeah, i read the specs... Aspherical and a 77mm thread which is great since all my filters are that size.

I'm not really fussed about the long end, but if this has good IQ it'll be my new landscape/events lens. The f3.5/4.5 is encouraging... since i'll be shooting stepped down anyway.

Are there test shots for the 16-85 yet? The price point is honestly one of the weakest things ever... Why would anyone buy that over the 18-200??

I thought it was meant to be a 18-70 replacement... but it's twice as expensive... and not even as fast... but i guess the VR somewhat off sets the slower aperture.

Ya, 16mm looks pretty good, but its hard to say yet...

I've only used Sigma lenses with HSM and the focus speed is very good. I couldn't tell the difference between USM from a L lens.

Does Tamron have something similar? I keep hearing about them having slower and very loud AF.

Canon user here if that makes a difference.

I've been impressed by the Canon and the Sigma... and i was going to buy a Sigma TODAY!!

But this morning i read about the Tamron... now the plan is kinda like hmm... i'm waiting to check a review or a price point.. anything basically on the Tamron. Becuase if it's better than the Sigma, obviously i'll grab that.

Damn you for posting this. I'm about to order the Sigma 10-20mm, too.

If its any consolation the Tamron will most likely by 1.5-2x more expensive than the Sigma 10-20mm
And its announcement (and price point) May drive up the used market for Sigma 10-20's (aka mine!)
(depending on the price)

Tamron make some fantastic lenses. The third party makers have been pushing hard in recent years.
