Which wide lens for a canon EOS 350D? Anonymous
I need something wide. I know this photo sucks, and that is due to me being a terrible photographer. (was taken with canon 50mm f/1.4).

Contenders:

canon ef 17-40mm f/4L
sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4.0
tokina 12-24mm f/4
tamron 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6

I got the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 DC HSM a few months ago and like it a lot. Cost me NZ$750. Might be a little on the cheap side for you if you're considering Canon L-series glass.

i have the 17-40! GREAT lens.

what about the Canon 10-22? Ive heard its great, and is probably not THAT much more than the other lenses you have listed (or it might be cheaper even!)
I use the sigma 10-20mm on my Nikon, and its quite good, a bit nasty loss of contrast and sharpness in the corners at F4, but at F8 its good. And the center of the lens is quite good.

While the f/4L 17-40mm is great, it's not wide enough for the 350D.

I agree, I use the 10-22mm Sigma on the 350D. You get quality with L glass, but it costs.

yay a fellow NZ'er lol
how much is it between the canon lense and the sigma?

i know with the nikon, its best to get the tokina 12-24mm f/4, its almost as good, and half the price

SO from your recommendations, this is it. I'm going to order tonight or tomorrow, as soon as I can finally make up my mind.

just decide if you need the extra 2mm (from 12 - 10mm) On my Nikon the difference between the 12 and 10mm (15mm or 18mm via 35mm standard) Is Quite apparent! Its like an extra 10 degrees of vision.

Not sure what the minimum focus distance is on the canon or tokina, but the sigma is Very close, you never have to worry about being too close and not being able to get the subject in focus, and has a nice manual focus override that you can just turn, even after its autofocused.

The build quality on the sigma is quite good, But wide open you do lose a bit of contrast and sharpness as you get near the edges at 10mm.
(that is on a nikon though, which is 15mm, Canon is 16mm with the 1.6x multiplier, so it is probably less)
