I was trying to incorporate the path so i could get something similar to this shot i took awhile back... it didn't really work out like i hoped though.

Here, the focus is on the path. The fog makes everything a big void. In your OP, the view is clear, and it's stuck without being one thing or the other. It's tense, and there isn't any clear subject to resolve the tension. If you shifted the angle a little, so that the path more closely bordered the frame and the emphasis was on the valley, it would work better, as the eyes tend to move towards open spaces.
