medium format switching to digital Anonymous
Shooting a wedding in a few months, i mostly shoot medium format film and can easily shoot and entire wedding on film and get good shots...

but i think i need to venture into digital some more, i got a d40x which is a pain,. do you think i should upgrade to the d300 ? benifits : of camera flash, Af for my 50mm f/1.8, generally better camera

You are an experienced film photographer, then bought the worst slr in existance and wonder why its crap.

Fuck a D300 you need a D3, several flashes and a 50/1.4

>50/1.4
Why? The extra stop wont make a difference, when using the extra flashes. Besides - The average person wouldnt notice the difference in Bokeh

I really recommend the D3 also. It has excellent low light sensitivity and thus is perfect for weddings. I think Butterfly wanted you to get the 50/1.4 lens because it is a very fast prime, perfect for low light conditions. But I can be wrong.

Uh are you trolling? Lots of wedding pros use the below-top model (D300, D200, 40D, K20D lolol). Much easier to afford the mandatory 2+ bodies that way.

D300 would be a good choice. A used D2x would also, I picked one up recently for $1300.

Personally I would probably pick up a pair of used D200 bodies or a D2x and D200. The D200 would make a good backup because the image quality is excellent, the control layout is almost identical to the D300, D2x, and D3 so you can switch between bodies easily, and they can be had for around $800 used.

Mostly because op is also trolling.

This is actually very good advice btw.

op here, not trolling btw.

thought about picking up a used d2x but they are old technology and there iso performance is below par , d3 is way out of my price range and if i had that money i couldnt justify spending that much on a camera when im not working fulltime as a photog.

thanks for the advice.

oh yeah i bought the d40x as a digi slr for a holiday i went one...

still wish i could shoot it all mf w/ my mamy 67
