First attempt at HDR Anonymous
This is my first try at HDR and I tried to compose the best picture I could. Unfortunately that meant this stupid street. So anyone with HDR experience tell me what you think. Is it over done? I tried to exagurate the pic but did i do so too much?

OP here...

Note: I do realize there is some image shifting issues, I dont have my tripod with me as i am on a trip. I do realize a tripod is ideal for HDR. So please focus your critiques on the coloring, saturation, etc.

Thanks!

wait for vincent to reply. he's probably the most knowledgable guy in regards to HDR.

i just pull shit through photomatix and play with the sliders.

Holy fucking epic like 300! I love this type of photography... When I bracketed I only did +-1ev according to the meter. Then the standard 0 shot also. Should I use more than 3? Also how do you bracket? I am very new to the use of bracketing...
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
>>140506
i also shoot handheld.. as far as i know, the main reason why you get shifting is because of certain moving objects (clouds, people, trees.. water, etc)
but yeah, i just use AEB with my 400D (-2, 0, +2).
shouldn't need heavier compensation than that.

vincent's photos are the cleanest HDRs i've seen though. so even i am curious how he does it.

>>140507

Just to make sure I have my newbie lingo right...

The -2, 0, +2 that you are talking about as well as i was talking about, that is what the camera's meter reads right as the shutter speed changes? Or is it the exposure compensation?
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
>>140508
I believe it's exposure compensation
just make sure whenever you do take a shot, that you're a few ticks above the maximum shutter speed.. otherwise the darker shot will not differ enough from the middle one.

You'll find that 99% of /p/ hates HDR because HDR is 99% garbage. If you just want the grainy, contrasty look of the shot beethy posted you can run highpass and some local contrast on your image to get it.

Thats pretty awesome...
I do understand CS2 decently well, but what your talking about I've never messed with. I catch on quick, so a simple explanation like(filters->Sharpness->etc) would be enough of an explanation to what you were talking about.

Beethy, your playground hdr is probably my favorite hdr image of all time.

If that was your attempt to make the shot look like Beethy's, it was full of fail.

that's because beethy's shit IS full of fail

cool, but a bit heavy for my liking (and missing some of my steps)

thank you, i like that one also

Yeah Tripod really is key I suggest taking several more exposures over and under what you think you'll need. I find that sometime I'll skip on of my exposures when processing and it will work out better that way, experiment with it. You don't always need to have a big landscape and clouds for an effective HDR, try something like a car, they can turn out pretty neat. Also when you ARE doing a scene with clouds It is good to try and capture them how you like with one exposure, and use only that exposure for the HDR rendering. Unless you are super fast it's hard to get more than two exposure where the clouds don't move a noticeable amount. Cloud/subject movement=ghosting

>> Newbie
well, another sorry from another newbie but what is HDR? long exposure or what?
>> Anonymous
>>140643

HDR is an acronym that usually means "The photographer is a talentless moron". Beware of the curse of HDR.
>> Anonymous
>>140539
I spent 10 minutes on it. Beethy's original shot is a lot better than the OP's so it's not going to look as good with all the processing anyway. I just did that to give an idea of what's possible with some simple adjustments.
>> Anonymous
op :to make a proper and interesting hdr you first need to take a picture really contrastedn yours is quite bland...try with a cloudier sky, more trees etc you'll get more room to make agood hdr (and i didn't say a good photo...)

Before doing any HDR, you should ask yourself. "Do I really need it?"
And remember, RAW has waaaaay bigger dynamic range than it first would seem like. So shooting RAW might be a lot better deal than shooting multi exposure HDR.

Im not trolling, really. How do you get that effect? It looks like absolute shit, but I know someone who will be stunned by it. Just wanna make it, so I can let HDR go once and for all.
>> Anonymous
>>143099

ITS FUCKING HDR. HIGH DYNAMIC RANGE. Read into it.

Basically involves combining several photos of varying exposure, on a pc, to create a more "realistic" version of the original. Sometimes people deliberatly over process the photos, and THATS the effect you get.

Most common software is Photomatix and Photoshop for this.

Tl,dr.

PS, i actually like HDR.

>>143117

I know what fucking HDR is, you son of a fuckiing bitch. I also know how to make an HDR pic. I was just wondering how you get them so friggin out of the charts fucking overprosessed in a way that makes them look like a render. Like>>140943. I have used photomatix alot, but no matter what I do i dont get that result.
