Found this in my drive. Why didn't Leica make a 4X5?

Originally Ernst Leitz's vision was to create a miniature camera at a time when everything was sized like a Speed Graphic or bigger - hence the screw mount Leicas. The entire point was to avoid something like 4x5.

Later when this turned out to be unprofitable (the 1950s), Leica added 35mm SLRs to their repertoire, but by then large format was on its way out too so they just never got around to it.

Nowadays, the LF market is pretty saturated with old and new gear, and there's simply nothing new Leica could offer in this field.

38353 and 38357 are obvious samefag. I think I remember that thread, too, although I don't remember what happened with it.

Are you 100% sure they never did? I wouldn't be surprised if at some point, especially pre-1950s, Leica did make or at least brand a 4x5. Probably the most like candidate time would've been during the war, where they might've been ordered to. I doubt someone would just pull "Yep, I've got a Leica 4x5, but the bellows have holes in them" out of their ass.

Anyone remember how that thread ended?
