I'm enjoying my Tokina RMC 17mm f/3.5 AI lens, its great to have a wide angle on full frame.
I ran a roll of Fuji Superia 400, and over exposed by a stop to really punch those colours., the greens went mad.

I feel that all of your flickr photos are ordinary snapshots, but I love the ones you post here on 4chan. Do you have a separate flickr account for these pictures or do you just not post them on flickr?

sweet shots. Im diggin all the green.
one thing tho, not to put it down if its your favorite film or anything, but superia 400?? cmon man, throw some velvia 100 in there and really get things poppin' they'll be razor sharp too when put through that 5000 ED ;)
happy shooting.

there are many reasons i actually like to shoot colour print more than E6, first is cost, second is turn around, i can get the C41 developed in 15mins rather than a week for my local lab to send away for E6 process.
Third, colour print is more forgiving than positive film, it has a much larger degree of latitude. so you can really put it in difficult situations without any worry.
forth, superia is actually a lovely film for its price :)

the closest you can get to velvia at 400 speed is provia x, and thats a great film but its just as grainy as superia 400 (maybe a little less). I actually prefer Ektachrome E100VS over velvia 100, but thats just me, and i find almost no difference between velvia 100 and 50.

I think there is a stigma against colour print films, yes chromes are better, but colour print films aren't as bad as ppl think they are. As you can see, cheap films are just as capable as their expensive counterparts. ^_^

It is true, I blame elitism and/or internets.

Superia/Press 800 is still one of my favourites, I hope they don't change it. Posting superia in a superia thread

For the record, my dislike of color negative stems from actual use of it. The colors just always seemed really dull and boring to me.

Granted, this was mostly crappy films like Kodak Gold and such... I do want to try out the ISO800 and 1600 color negative that Fuji has sometime, and I've got a couple rolls of Kodak Portra VC that I need to run through. I mostly just find slide film and traditional B&W a lot more fun.

I don't mind kodak gold 100 sometimes, especially if it's printed well. It is cheap as fuck.
I never could, personally, get it scanned well on my shitscandual (minolta, now broke). The other speeds are bleh, imo.
I gotta give it to portra, though. I was butthurt and didn't even try it after kodak killed vericolor but I've been shooting 160NC almost exclusively for months and loving it. I like the results at 160, whereas I used to rate NPS at 125 to get what I wanted.
OTOH, they'll probably fuck it up or discontinue it.

There's your problem.

colour neg film really really benefits from been over exposed by 1/3-1/2 a stop, its got fantastic latitude so it can handle it without any problems.

Kodak Gold is a great film, its just hated by elitism because its "Kodak Gold" family fun what ever... Fuji superia is Fujifilm's equivalent to Kodak's Gold, but you dont hear people hating on that as much, go figure.
I have a few pro-packs of Portra 400VC, its my fave film, but too expensive for day to day shots, so i use superia 400 or Gold 400 for that with similar results (when over exposed appropriately)

I dont see how shooting slide film be more "fun", infact i find it less fun. Due to the fact i have to wait up to a week to see the results, it brings a dampening feeling. also its no where near as flexible as colour print in extreme lighting conditions, thus i find colour print more suitable for street photography than slide as you get a better yield.

With high speed films, the professional versions tend to be quite a bit better than the consumer, Portra 800 and NPZ are fantastic.

as a general rule of thumb with colour print, over expose by a 1/3 to 1/2 a stop, ie, NPC/NPS at 125.

The slide film I most often shoot is Velvia. And the neat thing about shooting Velvia is that it effects your perception of the world. You start seeing a lot more colors, especially bright yellows and reds that look especially good on Velvia, around you.

Similarly, when I've got a camera loaded up with B&W slung around my neck, everywhere I go seems to be brimming with exciting textures and patterns.

But with color negative film, which pretty much reproduces colors as they are... Meh. Everything just looks normal. Which, given that I live in Buffalo, means generally dingy and drab and awful, especially in winter.

(I suppose I could theoretically train myself to see like that all the time, and I kind of do when I'm shooting digital, but it's just not the same)

oops, i forgot to add the file. From a roll of Superia 400 rated at 320

Also, dont judge the film based from prints, they are almost never how they look on the film itself.

I had the same problem with kodak gold. My polarizer fixed it. I mean, seriously, it went from dull and kinda muddled colors to bright popping colors.

Ooo, preeeetty.

I might have to try that.

Man, now I'm all twitchy to shoot some color negative film. I've got some crappy, probably-expired stuff sitting in my fridge... In theory, I could even get it developed for free, although that would require me to drive to Canada and spend something like $6 in bridge tolls, mostly negating the cost savings of just taking it to the local drugstore (unless I shot a whole bunch of rolls)

(Oh, and the free developing doesn't work for one-hour, so I'd have to drive back again the next day)
