well what a resonable camera i can use to get some high res. pictures

Resolution doesn't really matter. Six megapixels is all you really need, and I can't think of any camera made today with less.

Here's a question to you: what sort of pictures do you want to take?

Canon = Nikon
Nikon = Canon

The only difference is which family of overpriced lenses you get stuck with.

Pentax or Sony have cheaper bodies that are just as good (for entry-level users) and have a wide range of cheap lenses.

well then you're going to want a nikon. they have much faster shutter speeds and they swivel much smoother on a tripod for perfect blur free shots.

well whats a good digital camera that i can take good sharp close up and sharp landscape shots
>> Anonymous
OP: Any DSLR will be able to do that in the right light. Go to a store, a camera store, not a best buy. Play around with all the different camera bodies in your price range, from all the companies: Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony, and if they have them, Sigma, Fuji, and Panasonic. Pick the one that feels the best, and report back to us for lens recomendations.

Yes, they can. Sony even showed us in a magazine lately old Nikon film cameras can.

(OP, ignore that bit, it's a joke, don't worry about.)

Sony can use old Minolta lenses.
Minolta lenses are cheaper than semen-stained gym socks.

OP, ignore this. Again, any good camera can.

Nikon all the way OP.
You should get a D40.
They have super fast shutter speeds so you can capture great action. Like less than 1/4,000 of a second! That is fast! It will look like everything is frozen!

They used to be, the whole used minolta lens market has dried up because everyone is using them again now.
