I just bought two rolls of Ilford b&w iso200 infrared. This is my first time shooting infrared, and I'll be using a Canon AE-1 with an R2 filter available.

Does /p/ have any suggestions for me?

Find out how much your focusing prism lies by and how much your light meter is going to lie and adjust. Infrared film focuses and meters differently from normal film.

Ilford's IR film isn't really an IR film, it's an extended range B&W film. A dark red filter (no. 25 or 29) will probably work best, a true IR filter will not overlap enough of SFX's range to be useful.

Since it's an extended range panchromatic film and you're probably not going to be using an IR filter, it is not necessary to adjust focus to the IR mark. Just focus as normal

Since SFX does have an anti-halation layer, don't expect the glowy, soft look that you get with HIE.
