LETS TALK FILMS Anonymous
Hey, I was wondering what type of film you guys use. I am particuly interested in colour print film with high colour saturation. Is porta 160VC my best bet at getting print film with velvia level saturation? How about 400iso colour print films?

The pic is unrelated but i sure like it.

No color print film has good color saturation :(

You need slide film. Particularly fuji velvia. you are at the mercy of the person running the print machine with print film so you'll never get really fantastic colors because they will think they are too dreamy and subdue them in the processing unless you tell them to enhance the saturation of your prints at the lab

Hmm i was aftraid of that. Getting slides processed makes my wallet a bit empty on the inside :|

How does velvia 400 go? I love shooting slides but i am yet to try anything higher than 100iso.

slides should actually be cheaper than print film, minus the cost of printing. If your lab charges you more you really, really need a different lab.

velvia only comes in 50 or 100 speed, provia is the one that goes up to 400. both work quite well and I usually get similar results between velvia and provia when it comes to 100 speed.

Same here. I've shot one roll of provia 400 and they turned out quite well. higher grain and not as velvety as velvia, but still very good for 3 stops up from velvia 50

Provia 400X (note the X) is the best you can get at 400 speed that remotely looks like velvia.

as for colour prints, i much like NPC (not so much NPS), NPH and 160/400VC.

I just wish E6 didn't have such a long turn around. here they are sent to a pro lab that does a batch run twice a week, because the chemicals dont keep like C41.

Dont forget Ektachromes, i love the stuff.

you have an E6 developer there?

right down the street from where I work. All the labs in the area charge an arm and a leg for the developing, then send it out to this place. So I went direct instead- i havent' regretted it since!

wa so lucky.
no one in my city does E6, all get sent to a larger city north of me. Maybe when i move there oneday, i could go direct like you.
