I have one, the shot with the bench just came out better in my eyes, sort of gives an inviting feel.

The Bench could have added to the scene, So I don't think he should have moved past it, just shot it from a different angle (If possible) There isn't a good picture at every spot, Sometimes you just have to give up and move on.

The really talented photographers see the good shot quickly, and see more interesting shots than the masses, But they don't waste their time on mediocre to poor locations. (not saying this one was, you can't tell from a single photo)

As a photographer ( assuming your using a digital. be it point and shoot or D-slr)
shoot as many pictures as you can during an expidition or outing. then take a look when you get home to see what you've shot. but if your shooting in 35 like I used to then yea. you need to get the good shot and only the good shot so your not spending your money on film.
