my girl got back from studying abroad in Paris last weekend. we had a welcome home dinner-- and somebody told the waiter it was her birthday to embarrass her.

>back to work at a mall portrait studio.

OH GOD CAN YOU POST SOME PHOTOS FROM WORK?
Or at least tell us about the gear you use for that?

I love how remarkably tacky most studio backdrops are. I really want to get a super-cheezy 70s/80s studio backdrop of, like, a forest in fall or a field of corn or something.
>> lobstercake !pJDFbJZtxk
oh and about that last one... anybody have any unintentionally out of focus shots they ended up really liking anyway?

last pic related.
>> Anonymous
Thanks for posting. I like the first two but can't really tell what's going on in the last one. Could be my crappy work monitor, though.

lol. well here's their site: s121.com with examples n shit

the studio uses a d80, 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (kit lens lulz) and 3 lights. i don't know shit about lighting equipment so i can't tell you any specifics about them. anyway its two lights with softboxes in front that you can move around and a hair light mounted on the ceiling of the studio.

the camera stays at ISO 200 1/125sec f/11

Thanks for the info!
Do you have hella backdrops and props?

All the mall photography studies near where I am are mostly for photos of families and kids, so they have tons of really retarded props. Giant foam crayons and shit. I've always wanted to go in there and ask them to do a shoot of me, only with all the kid props and backdrops.

actually no the studio is more serious and artsy with its portraits than other mall studios. we only have black, white, hand painted brown and blue cloth backdrops.

That sounds pretty damn boring, unless you get a chance to be creative with angles and the subjects and so on.

I really like how the chain is in focus, but she isn't. It adds to the picture. Nice job.

I don't think the OP is using that as an example of a good photograph, but as an example of what the studio's setup looks like.

I probably could not do this job, just seems like the most soul crushing thing. I'd probably get fired for trying to give people non-terrible photos. :(

actually why i've stuck with this studio is because photographers are given a lot of freedom with their shoots. of course i have to crank out your typical, generic poses, but there's a lot of opportunity to experiment.
