Nikon D90 predictions ????????? !cs9L8ejP9w
You heard it here first, folks.

The D90 is dropping this month and I'm going to call the features.

- 14-bit A/D
- Live View with dual AF modes like Sony
- 3.0" VGA resolution screen from the D3/300
- 6 FPS
- 14 MP with same sensor as D300
- no AF motor
- 3 new AF-S primes to replace the AF ones

$1299 USD

I called it.
>> Einta !!MWv3ICYobCM
>>- Live View with dual AF modes like Sony
would surprise the hell out of me.
>> Anonymous
- 8-bit A/D
- No live view
- 1.0" VGA screen
- 2 MOTHERFUCKING FRAMES PER SECOND
- 4 MP with same sensor as the TOMY super cam
- three AF motors
- no new lenses
- Final Destination

$5999 USD

I called it.
>> Anonymous
Even though this thread is fresh bullshit, id still be suprised if they took the AF motor out of new models, whats the point? You'd just piuss off people with older lens'. might as well keep it.

- 32-bit A/D
- Live View with dual AF modes and super steady shot like Sony
- 4.0" resolution screen from the D3/300 successor
- 30 MOTHERFUCKING FRAMES PER SECOND
- 39 MP sensor from the Phase One P45
- an AF motor
- complete upgrade for the whole lens line up
- Final Destination

$999.99 USD

I called it.

I can't comment on the rest- for instance, I have no idea how many FPS any camera does, including my own, because I have absolutely no use for spray and pray- but these two are wrong.

>- 14 MP with same sensor as D300

D300's sensor is not 14MP. It's either the same sensor with 12.3 megapixels or not the same sensor with something else.

>- no AF motor
>- 3 new AF-S primes to replace the AF ones

Very probably not. Why would they? Looking at it from either angle it doesn't make sense:

D90 users are serious photographers: Then they'll be miffed about losing their old lenses.

D90 users are hobbyists who enjoy taking pichurs or rich gadget fiends who but a D90 to snub those with a D60: Then they'll be using a zoom.

Also, I really don't understand this big drive now of "HURR DURR BANISH MECHANICAL CONNECTIONS BETWEEN LENS AND BODY" that some people have. What does it matter? Personally, I'd like to keep aperture rings, etc.

uh how is it better?

the D300 is still faster in FPS
the D90 probably won't have 51 motherfucking AF points
the D300 has 100% coverage finder, and larger VF
the D300 meters and works will all lenses
the D300 is sealed

all the fucking cameras are the same at the moment if you just shoot manually. i guess your all to retarded to get that.

okay, i'll give you one of the $500 dslr that takes only 5 RAW at 3 FPS and you take the same shots as i do with my d300 that does 35 RAW or 70 JPG at 8 FPS

let's see you track a ball manually on a 400mm lens lol

The D40x had an entirely different sensor from the D40.

>>200964
Hell no. I shoot pretty much exclusively manually, even focusing, and I have to say out of the things he listed, these two

>the D300 has 100% coverage finder, and larger VF
>the D300 meters and works will all lenses

are very important, and this one

>the D300 is sealed

is rather nice.

The only interesting sports photography I've seen is David Alan Harvey's NASCAR project and Garry Winogrand's shots of the rodeo thing and the football one.

Both were shot with Leica Ms. Harvey doesn't use a motor or even a Leicavit, but I've heard he's so badass with one he can wind two frames per second unaided.

I don't know if Winogrand had gotten his motor at the time (1970s) he took those, or if he waited until his '80s "be driven around LA shooting out the window with mah motordrive" phase.

None of what I saw would take FPS to shoot, anyway, just a good eye.

Conventional sports photography is just banal shit to keep the spectators happy.

>>201038
>>201039

How is it needed to take pictures of kids or dogs?

>>201041
No. It makes it easy to get one, but the best, "perfect" shots come from careful observation and composition, and interaction (whether mental involvement or actual interaction) with the subject.
>> Anonymous

>>201105
Winogrand, I remember reading he was using a 21mm (instead of his usual 28mm) a lot during this time, and this looks like it.

>>201108
Harvey, he shot this project with his usual 35mm, 50mm, and 28mm lens combo.

Yep, one sure needs autofocus SLRs with motordrive and superteles to shoot sports.

I like continuous shooting for some things.

For example, attempting to get the timing perfect when somebody is swinging a flogger. It's goddamn hard to time it correctly without continuous.

Flogger?
I know what I'm thinking, but I doubt it's what you mean.

continuous shooting is a must in lol XTREME SPORTZ in my mind.
you cant perfectly time when someones going to be in the middle of a 360 flip
you cant perfectly time when someone is going to be at the peak height of their back flip when they are wake boarding and fuck i shot like 200 ish pictures in one
day of some friends wakeboarding and although most of them sucked due to me the others were just slightly
to late or to early from what i would have wanted to take the picture of ie right before/after someone lands

Yes you can.

1. Watch them.
2. When they get to the top of the jump, press the button.

It's not difficult. This was shot with a one frame every three seconds superzoom point and shoot. Just keep your eye on the subject and you don't need any special tricks.

Nope, thinking the same thing then.
You really killed the highlights on the shirt, though.
>> Einta !!MWv3ICYobCM
>>201157
No I didn't. I exposed for the shirt/people. They're exposed correctly in the RAW. I just pushed it 2 stops so the flogger would be more visible/recognizable.

Hm...it seems that at 1/200 there's still some motion blur. I guess I could try a faster sync speed. Perhaps 1/1000?

thats a terrible shot
you cant deny the fact that if you try to just guess or study someone skating you can get things right every
time. i know the process that goes into doing a trick when skating but still you dont know how high the trick
will be done and when hes going to get his feet back to the board.
i guess il change what i have said, continuous is a must if you want a large or atleast larger volume of good/decent shots.

this sequence would have taken maybe 1.5 seconds?
yeah overexposed whatever just trying to show that i dont think i would have been able to get the shots if i hadn't been doing continuous

When I posted it before on here it was appreciated. What don't you like about it?

It's the only shot I have of somebody skateboarding or whatever, and it's not a "skate shot," it's just abstract street, but it shows the point: I know nothing about skateboarding tricks and I was able to time it right, easy.

A sequence like that, yeah, of course you need a high FPS (or three bodies, I'd love to see someone shoot that with three 11x14 view cameras just for kicks), but most people shooting anything aren't aiming to do stuff like that. For most users, high FPS is just plain unneeded, and for people with special subjects or special desired results, well, specialized equipment is specialized equipment. Does your lens not having movements ever pose a problem for you?

I'd rather take a very quiet, very robust shutter that does one frame a second over these loud things that do five or whatever it is they do.
>> Anonymous
Alright /p/! Place bets! Which will come first? Nikon D80x(D90) or Canon 5Dmk2?
>> Anonymous
>>201204
yeah its a nice abstract shot.
i was thinking of it as a skate shot. cool shadow

i wasnt really going for a sequence but the continuous shots allows you that option as well as making it easier to get single shots.
i think it comes down to reaction times, mine being awful. i think to much...

Does your lens not having movements ever pose a problem for you?

what?

>i wasnt really going for a sequence but the continuous shots allows you that option as well as making it easier to get single shots.

I mean, obviously, doing something faster isn't a bad thing, but any DSLR today is fast enough for pretty much everything, the specs aren't something to worry about.

In terms of technique, though, yeah, it's easier to get a decent shot that way, but when you're shooting that fast, you're never thinking or composing with as much precision as you would be otherwise- that's my main point. Slowing down just a little, waiting, shooting less mechanistically, etc.

>what?

Movements. Tilts and shifts. Tilt-shift lenses and view cameras can move the lens to do a variety of different effects that some people like or need for their specialized application. Tilt-shift lenses are expensive because a lot of precision is involved in making one, and more expensive because so few people really need them and would pay even the price they would run if produced in larger numbers.

>yeah i cant do green so what?!

Now it's my turn to say "what?"

>>201205
If they do both come out (I've heard that Canon and Nikon might be consolidating their lines, that the 5D might've been a one-off thing and that the D80 is the end of the line for those) then I'd say the D90.
>> Anonymous
Dammit, I've been planning on buying the D80 for a while now. Anyone have any idea how soon this will come out? It should drive prices down.

>> Anonymous
>>201326

>> Anonymous
>>202221

The D80 has the worst matrix metering ever.

Plus I have a few other gripes with it, like not being able to see the ISO in the viewfinder by default. The OK button not being in the middle of the directional buttons. Not being able to change the AF area mode without delving into the menus. Burst speed could be faster. No uncompressed RAW option. Unconstant Burstrate. No true mirror lockup.
>> Jeremo !iKGMr61IHM
well i'm waiting to see what the D90 is like before i get meself a D300 now.

I reckon:
14 bit A/D
no liveview
3" screen
5fps
14mp
Will definitely have the AF motor
Will have a sensor dust removal system
Will take SD cards not CF
11 focus points
3D matrix, spot and centre weighted metering
same three focus modes as D80
>> Anonymous
>>202240
If they gave you everything you wanted in the amateur model there wouldn't be half as much incentive to get the semi-pro. And besides, Matrix Metering is the worst type of metering.

>>202256
They've got to have Live View in the D90 now that the whole Canon lineup has it, even if it's just for use as a worthless bullet point.
