Canon Digital Rebel XTi Anonymous
Looking for a little bit of feedback, extra information and such on this camera before I actually get the thing. Would like to not end up disappointed.

It's good. Just buy it.

Check out sunny f16 at 1/100th and see if the pic comes out 1/3rd EV low. That's what the one that I had did.
>> Anonymous
What would you like to know about it? I have one and I'm pleased with it. It's a good progression up from the XT. Make sure you can hold onto the grip properly (it is very small)

Explain, please?

Not the op but alot of xti's apparently underexpose their shots. I typically shoot almost a full stop over on my xti.

Newfag is new.

A lot = first 50,000 units. Canon has fixed it a long time ago. Stop reading DPR and believing what you read.

That's nice. Shame they wouldn't fix the one that I had. A firmware update didn't fix it either. Ended up selling it on Ebay and got a nice D80 instead. Best thing I ever did.

I own a D70s, and there have been a lot of times I've wished I could've gotten an XTi instead. I've had issues with white balance and whatnot, but after doing a photoshoot with a friend who owns an XT, and comparing photos side by side, I'm really happy I have a D70. Some of the XT's photos looked like they came from a regular point and shoot.

I've had my D70 since 2004 when the first came out. I am very pleased with it, it does all what i need and i have no plans on replacing/upgrading it. On the other hand, i cannot wait to upgrade my F5.

Its not about the camera, its about the person behind the shutter.

These shots are not using the same settings, so I'm not sure how I feel about comparing them. Please take note that the nikon shot was at 1/800th sec exposure at f5.6 at 450mm, while the xti shot was taken at 1/500th at f9.0 with a 30mm lens. Xti shot was iso 320, and the nikon was iso 200.

The XTi was taken with a 300mm lens. Both cameras were in sport mode so that I could concentrate on the action. Apparently, Canon has different ideas on what constitutes a sports shot.

People use those idiot modes?

K10D doesn't and eh is pretty cool guy.

Don't knock it till you've used it. At 50 plus yards away from your subject, it's enough to keep your camera on the action. There is an occasional use for the "idiot" modes, you simply have to be smart enough to use them when appropriate. They are tools for your tool bag.

Sage for trying to compare photos that were taken with auto modes in jpg....
>> Anonymous
>>113707

True. If you've got a camera like the XTi then it is also sometimes useful to be able to quickly switch the mode dial to one of them if you have no chance of adjusting all the manual settings to catch something on time.

Same photographer? Compatible lenses? Comparible in-camera settings? Both shot in raw and given equivalent post processing?

You can't compare two photos and say one camera is better than the other. You can take a D3 and end up with photos that look like they came from a point and shoot. And unless you really do have the lowest-grade cheapo point-and-shoot, you can get some very good photos out of a pocket-sized olympus or sony.
