I really like the comic, futuristic samurai like feel of it

Keep on

Sweet photographs, what did you use as light?
Also, MOAR!

jesus christ, is this a really bad troll?

beethy = troll
>> Anonymous
Beethy have you ever seen a comic book before?
Your panel layout is totally wrong.

The images look OK I guess, but you should really post this in /co/ to get some advice on how to make the panel layout look more like a real comic...

(PS: the concept is super gay but the execution is ok)
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
>>265024
There aren't any more... and I used a 530EX II as master and 430 EX as slave being held up by someone.

>>265031
Haha I'll keep that in mind.

>>265035
Yeah.. I read lots of comics. Mainly Japanese ones though. Panel layout was hard... I actually didn't plan out pages 5-8 very well... and I agree that it needs to be more dynamic layout wise. Like overlapping and not just square blocks lined up.
So basically due to lack of planning out how much space I needed restricted the layout. That and my lack of photoshop skills in that area.
I agree that the concept is super gay, maybe when I get better at this I could attempt serious stuff.

Anyway.. do you guys think I should try this kinda thing again?

God dammit beethy

ya, It has potential, though its obviously going to be a lot harder than it looks!
Maybe do up some templates first, then you can plan for what types of shots you need to take, etc...

Some great shots, some could be better, overall awesome, so

I'm not trolling, but honestly this needs more cleavage.
I mean, one of the big things about comics is that the chicks always have HUGE TITS and they are all almost-bursting-out-of-clothes.

>Are you 75 or something? I can't help but hear that in some really old guy's voice.

Team America may have something to do with that.

Fuck the trolls (i see the irony in me saying this ofc). Its a good try and a tricky layout, sure, its not the best ive seen, but its shit loads better than the bollocks that is the norm for this style.

Youve made me want to give it a go now

you can't tell that the girl is holding a golf club until the last frame.

Some of the angles are awkward (3rd/4th last frame in first pic)

Keep those in mind for next time.
>> Project !dashI8UpO.
I thought it was rather funny that it turned out to be a golf club after the *cling*.
>> Anonymous
your models are terrrrible at posing.
>> Anonymous
Random tip: to get that "action" look (i.e. comic-book foreshortening) use wider angles and get really close to part of them. Bad for faces, good for the exaggerated perspective you get in comic action.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
You fucker! You beat me to it. I've been wanting to do a graphic novel with photos for a while now... cool stuff dude. Keep working on it. These are like... proof of concept. Gloomy bear fight? I lol'd, but you can do better than that. Read some comics, look at how fucking crazy the plots are.

I might say beethy surpassed my expectations.

as for the layout and stuff...... i just read a lot of manga before i did it.
my layout is too stiff and plain though, so i suggest just reading some manga online and checking how the panels are laid out in dynamic fight scenes.
and thanks!

srsly?

Anyway.. thanks everyone. If you have any more critique or whatever, just shoot.

May I ask for the EXIF information on your shots and the setup you had? A friend of mine wanted to do something like this too.
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
>>265783
sure, after i have breakfast .. so gimme a bit.
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
>>265783
I basically wrote down every shot I needed to take before I went out there. Then split them up in what lenses I'd use. So I would only need to change once.
I used my 100mm for close up shots and the 10-22mm for the wider shots.
For fill light I used the 580EX II with a large bounce card on it facing up at low output and I had someone hold up a 430EX as slave behind the models from a slightly sideways angle for harsh light.. this one was at high output. I used a shutter speed varying from around 200 to 100. No natural light was used.. it's all artificial.
I did this because I didn't want much visible background since I wanted the images separate from the background to avoid any inconsistencies.
You could also do this kinda thing during daylight but then you'll need a lot more planning of where every model should stand and what angle you'll be shooting from.. doing this would be a lot more time consuming.

That's pretty much it.
>> Grebbin !!M4ehTJKOnNf
>>265800
Good you plan it out. And I see lots of backlighting, you like that sort of noir style for the execution.
>> Anonymous
>>265800

Thanks, I'm no good at seeing those things based on the photo. But now that you explained it, I understand how you got that lighting effect. The dramatic lighting works, I think, given the comic book feel you're aiming for.

My only gripe is not on a technical level, but in that she dres the sword upside down which doesn't link to the next pictures where she is holding it properly. I'd reshoot that with the blade positioned properly.

Other than that, while I understand you were going for dramatic effect, the shot of the sword and club is jarring from a logical point. had the sword hit the club like that, it would end up sliding up and cutting the person regardless. Do you get what I mean? How you can make it logical while looking obvious and dramatic, I don't know. I'm a shitty photographer, it's just my observations as a newbie.
>> Anonymous
>>265845

I'm the same guy as>>265783by the way.

Also, i meant she draws the sword, not dres.

Yeah I totally get what you mean... The whole golf club thing kinda ticked me off a bit since the girl said she was bringing a baseball bat which was my original concept. So I didn't really get to flesh out the whole golfclub vs sword thingie.

>>265874
..thanks? i'm not sure if this was some kinda hip joke.

>>266006
thanks.. and uh...
planning probably took about 2 or 3 hours.. the shoot took around 2 1/2 hours and post processing probably took 4 (mainly because i couldn't do some of the simplest things in photoshop)

>srsly?

Yeah, serious.
From a photographic point of view, its not the best, but - im a sucker for high constrast black & white effects, along with distortion and wideangles.

You've clearly put alot of effort into producing this, unlike alot of the other stuff that appears on /p/, for which I compliment you on.

Do another one!
I have this saved on my desktop & may reference it in a college assignment I have on Photomanipulation

>>266473
Oh don't get me started on how much i'd love to see that
>> Anonymous
Well hmm.
For your first actual planned shoot I must say this isn't bad albeit a little ridiculous. I say do this again with a more believable theme and try to flesh out the story a little more.
This entire shoot takes place in 1 location only and ends there too. It would be interesting to see a longer comic in different locations and different times of the day. This will take much longer to do but I believe that it'll be more rewarding and the results will be epic.
I know you can kinda draw so just start drawing up some pages and put the rough layout down then post it on /ic/ or /co/ to have them critique that for you. Keep posting improvements there, when that's done you can start the actual shoot.
The post work is done okay in this case but you'll need to give the layout itself more style next time, it's too stiff. You should probably hand draw that too.
Do it faggot.

with this i had every shot in mind before hand

Have you ever taken a specific model to a specific location?
That's a planned shoot, homes.
