So my fellow /p/ers;
I don't know where else to go with my question.
camera prices in Europe are redicolously high, and in DK they are almost double as high as in the USA. What would you say is a safe way of getting a camera from the US to DK.
In "safe" I mean of course tax-free, or well tax-avoiding to be more exact.
easiest way is of course to have someone physically taking the trip and pretending to own it (you don't need to register cameras on the way out of europe and so on the way back it might as well be yours). unfortunately I know nobody that plans a trip any time soon, and I DONT WANT any of you "kind souls" to buy it for me and come visit ;-)
I was thinking to ask a friend to buy it, unpack and send body only. then send all accessories seperately (including battery etc.) so it will be considered used and practically worthless no?
In return, a lovely painting with a message.

Have a friend (re)prepackage it and lie about what's inside, instead of "9000EURO camera" say "9EURO teddy bear" or something. That's what I do.

yes yes. repackaging is my plan.
But mislabeling like that seems risky.
I was thinking about removing battery and recharger from the package - and obviously all the original documents and pachage material. then labeling it a used defect. for example - has a defect sensor and therefore worthless. I wonder how stupid they are at customs.
Keep up your advice people, I know some of you have experience with it.

was wondering what got the file deleted. didn't violate any rules, and was certainly work-place safe. just a picture of a painting.

You all are going though way too much effort.

Just have it marked as a GIFT on the customs label. Problem solved!

When I've done that sort of thing is just label it generically as photographic equipment and put a low price on the value. Never had a problem.

From Da Rules, #1 in fact:
"Only upload images that you, the photographer, have taken."

Thanks guys. marking it as a gift is something I didn't consider, I will have to call customs and ask what are the rules regarding gifts (maximum value). pre-ordering a D300 on ritzcamera - so it will be a sort of expansive "gift".
I still think that without a power supply they will have no way of confirming it is in working order, if it is marked as a defect.

well, I dont know if I should take that as a compliment or not, but it was a photo that I indeed took myself. So there you have it.
And on a side note, when people start sort-of-tech-related threads, they often post pics from the net - for example of a specific camera model or whatever.
I hope it wasn't the interpretation of the crucifiction in the painting that offended you. And then again, that is exactly the meaning of the painting.
