So, I have this old Nikon Camera I barely got to use until the digital wave caught me. My father bought a lens for it.

Now I'm buying a Nikon dSLR (probably D80) and I wonder if the lans on my old camera is utter crap or if it's actually useful. Internet hasn't been helpful so far.

This is a 28-105mm (F: 3.8-22)

What do you think?

Forgot to mention: brand is Aspherical IF

Does it autofocus? if so then it will work fine, If not then you can still use it but your camera won't meter, so you will have to have it in manual mode.

The kit 18-70mm lens is your best option still IMO.

That's not a brand, it's a specification. Look around more for a brand name.

Ah, found it. Sigma.

And yes. It has autofocus.

No, no. The brand is "28-105mm". "Aspherical IF" is the *aperture*.

aspherical IF means it contains aspherical lens elements and uses internal focusing. :3

If you like it on your film camera you may or may not like it on your dslr. The colour and contrast feel will likely stay the same but there may be increased chromatic aberration and/or flaring.

Thing is, I never really tried it out on my old camera. Film suddenly began to seem like a lot of trouble and a lot of money. That's why I'm asking /p/. Do any of you have anything similar?

Just put the damn lens on it and take some pictures. If they come out looking like shit then you might want a new lens.

I have the exact same lens as you if its really a 28-105 f2.8-4
And yes i have used it on my DSLR, and its alright, the 2.8-4 isn't bad to have, but its not very sharp either.

Barrel distortion is pretty bad, Get the 18-70 kit lens and sell the 28-105
