What does /p/ use for back up storage? I'm looking at getting a 1TB external HD and I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations.
>> sage rage !3I4SJbCh8M
I have a RAID1 120GB SATA setup in my PC, exclusively for photo storage. If I have more than 120jiggarams of photo, I back some up to 'archive quality' DVDs.

The moment I get home I burn all photos to DVD. All photos then sit on an HD dedicated to photos which is backed up every so often to a webserver some 20 miles away.

oh hey jeremo, so broke i can't even txt you back.
but if you read this.... can't hook you up with any canon discount stuff until possibly next year.

Hey beethy, wanna hook me up with some discount stuff?
>> Anonymous
I forgot my trip, it's Grebbin/Grev.

Her discount stuff is in Sydney isn't it? And don't think it's going to be cheap now anyways, I think got the heads up from retailers that the price is going to increase 15% or so.
>> Anonymous
Woops not that I think, the retailers did tell me about that already.

Someone said the Nikon stuff at Elizabeth street store in Sydney rose 20% already.

I don't use external HDDs for photo backup yet, right now I'm having them mirrored on multiple internal drives, not the safest solution but yeah.

generally I wouldn't use a 1tb hdd to backup I would use multiple smaller hdd-s, if one dies, not everything is lost.

2x redundant raid drives in a NAS with air filter and power filter.
>> Anonymous
I use a Firewire drive for projects I work on and I immediatly make a copy in a RAID5 NAS server
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
RAID != archive solution

RAID = uptime and throughput

No online media can be considered backup. It can be considered that the liklyhood of a total failure resulting in permanent loss is small but it will never be as small as with offline media.

I dont back up my photos.
>> Anonymous
I keep everything on my external travel HD.
And back everything up to a RAID 1 NAS.

It's all good man, i'm waiting for a full review of the 5DII anyway so it may be a while. The friend is um and uhing about the fuckin lens... jesus... i'm like it's only 400 bucks. DO ET FAG!

He's just wondering what he'll do with the 60mm he's already got

And to the people talkign about price rises, yeppo... it's already happening. A store had the D700 for 3270 4 weeks ago... now it's 3750. Sheeeeeeeet

That's good because none of your photos are worth saving anyway.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
i had one of those western digital mybooks as a backup. it was the first hard drive i ever had crash. they have a horrific attrition rate.

avoid mybooks like the plague.
>> Anonymous
i use the same wd in your photo op

A RAID does you no good if you accidentally delete something.

no amount of redundancy can help a dickhead
