Bug macros aren't really my thing, but these are good for what they are and I really like the whole collage technique you did. Very nice.

What sort of lens/setup did you use for these?

There are lazy bees. They kind of sit around and don't do much and instead of whizzing by, they kind of hover more. But yeah, in general, bees in flight are quite a hard capture.

Well, these were no lazy bees. Every picture of the bumble bee is in mid-flight (as you can probably tell).

I took all the pictures with the Minolta Maxxum 70-210/4 Macro zoom lens (beercan), all at full telephoto, and of course manual focusing (can't possibly trust AF in this situation).

I pretty much stood outside this morning for an hour tracking the bees in flight, focusing, and snapping shots. One of the bumble bees liked/hated me and kept flying still in front of me, in different positions. He was my main model.
