In my opinion you overdid it.

But then, plenty of people that jerk off to this shit.

Agreed. Vignetting just isn't cool.

not necessarily, its just that a little goes a long way.
>> beethy !vW/UaE6zYU
vignette's too harsh and it rarely works on skies.
>> Sage
More Vignetting I can still see a few buildings.

I like the visual style, but:

1. Don't vignette with the vignetting tool unless you're trying to make it look like it was taken with a shit camera/lens. Get creative and burn those corners.

2. Cliche picture is cliche. Compose more creatively and/or wait for something more interesting.

Pic related, one of Cartier-Bresson's takes on the NYC skyline, done from the scene of a fire in Hoboken.

Last one.

In your OP image, I see the Hudson (?, don't know if there are any other rivers in NYC) off to the side. Would've made a great leading line, maybe put the tower near the lower right-hand thirds grid point?

no, i actually don't know any famous photographers at all... it never interested me too much. or any other 'popular' photographers for that matter.
same way i've always been with my art... i do this on purpose so i don't subconsciously borrow great ideas that have been done before.
hopefully this will actually pay off in a bunch of years... i realise i'm still far from being what i want to be photography and art wise.
