Lens is a 28mm-equiv f/4.0. Way too wide, way too slow, especially since the sensor's high-ISO ability is iffy.
Sensor is a ~4.7 megapixel Foveon. Sigma's marketing department will tell you that that's equivalent to a 14 megapixel bayer-interpolated sensor, but that's bunk--it's a 4.7 megapixel sensor that just has better color rendition than a 4.7MP bayer sensor. If you shoot with a bayer sensor and reduce the resolution by half, you get exactly the same color fidelity (and still a third more resolution). And if you shoot in black and white with a bayer sensor, you get all of your pixels. Foveon is a dumb idea.
Cost is $1000. $500 would be cheap enough to overlook the sensor and lens deficiencies. But for $1000, I could get a much more useful camera (albeit also a much larger camera)
