Lenses, again, Fuck. catswiththumbs !!kNKksjfYe0p
I think Im just going with the EF 28mm f/1.8 USM AutoFocus Wide Angle Lens

I was going to go with a Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 EX DG

But The sigma I've got is a 55-200mm 1:4-5.6 So.. Yeah.

Well, basically I wanted to get the "Nifty Fifty"

I know it gets rave reviews, and from what I've been told on a few sites its a fantastic lens especially for the price

But for scenery and people up close, It seems like thats the better lens choice.

Please tell me if I'm wrong. I just know right now my main problem is the lenses I have (the sigma, and an old kit 35mm-80mm 5.6 from a manual canon made like in... 95?? The things a dirty P.O.S That didn't spend any of its life in my possession, I wasn't there to protect it from the world.

Comment too long. Clickhereto view the full text.

Get the 28/1.8. It's fast and a normal lens on a crop sensor, which I'm assuming you have. Perfect versatile lens.

If by the "nifty fifty" you mean the 50/1.8, it's eighty bucks. Save ten bucks from eight paychecks and you've got it. Or twenty from four or five from sixteen or whatever. In other words, get both, over time if you have to. Get the 28 first if you can, unless you seem to use longer focal lengths alot more than normal ones.

i'd love a 28mm f/1.8, but cant justify it.

50 however, shit yeah!

50 1.8 is always the answer. an 80mm (equiv.) 1.8 lens for 80 bucks? fuck yes.

the 28 1.8 is just an overpriced normal lens.
>> Anonymous
I've got a sigma 17-70, they're excellent. you should go with one of those.
>> Anonymous
get the 50mm anyway.

any budget photographer that shoots canon would be dumb to not have that lens.

>>125586
you have an interesting way of randomly capitalizing things.
>> Anonymous
>>125605
It justifies itself. Every photographer should have a normal prime. Especially when it's fast, a fixed normal focal length is just so amazingly versatile. Moreso even than a slow shitty kit zoom.

Fucking signed.

400$ for a 28mm 1.8? Fuck that shit.

You can get the 50mm 1.8 AND the 85mm 1.8 for less than that.

You don't even know what you're getting to so buy the 80$ 50mm first and see how you like it before you drop 400$ on a 28mm.

Basically dont have any decent lenses available. Figured it'd be a good starting point for a quality lens. Dont need L series quality yet. But It'd be nice to have something decent.
>> catswiththumbs !!kNKksjfYe0p
Well that and I keep hearing about how the 50/1.8 feels really flimsy
>> Anonymous
>> Figured it'd be a good starting point for a quality lens.

A good starting point for a quality lens is the 50mm. Not a 400$ 28mm.

Are you going to hug it and treat it like a cat toy? It's mounted on your camera and you leave it there. MF is shitty but that's why we don't MF on cheap lenses.

It has tremendous image quality for the price.

Im more of a fan of manual focus :-/

>>125731
You're missing the point. 28mm is a much more versatile focal length than 50mm. (Assuming we're talking crop bodies.)

A normal lens like the 28 is the perfect first lens for any camera; they ought to come with the things instead of slow, (usually) shitty zooms. Or rather, since it's expensive, the 28/2.8, which I think is actually cheaper than the 18-55 IS.

Makes sense for people like us but try to sell cameras to Joe Consumer that won't zoom.

Someone almost broke my 50/1.8 by turning the focusing ring when it was set to AF.

I've had loads of people who claim to be photographers go "wheres the zoom" when i say heres my 50mm prime.

Idiots (they were all nikon users as well)

ouasduh oiajsdjioasd pokasd

I know the feeling. I handed my camera over to someone with my 50mm f/1.8 on it, and I had to yell, "STOP!!!" because she kept trying to "zoom" it.

Actually, before I bought my 50mm, I had stopped at a few retail places to see if they carried it just to compare the prices. One place said, "50mm... to what? 200mm?" I left.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s

A prime.

FFL = "fixed focal length."

My 50/1.8 shattered from a 1 foot drop. The focus mechanism was blown to bits, so all I have now is a nice magnifying glass. (will post pics later)
Consider the 35/2 (around $150) since it has almost a 180 degree manual focus ring.

>>125818
My 50 1.8 has a little nick at the front from falling on a sidewalk from three feet, with the weight of my camera and battery grip behind it.

Hmm, these are taken at relatively long shutter speeds, 1/8, 1/5 and even 1.6 seconds. So probably IS or tripod, why the fuck would you use ISO 1600?

if you don't care about TTL, (older) nikon speedlights~ (15, 20, 27, 28/28dx, foo) are great flashes for the money or otherwise.
the sunpak 411 is another favourite of mine. The vivitar 283HV is a popular choice on internets.
Used well, a good thyristor flash is more than adequate. Even for fills.

The only reason my shots look ok at 1600 is because they were shrunk by roughly 500%.
Also, lens was fixed once and broke again.
Not recommended.
