I just realised that I have never seen an organised softwear thread on /p/.
Just wondering what progs you guys are using for doing what.
All editing I do with Adobe Photoshop CS3, for no particular reasons. I don't use the new features of CS3 over CS2 but I do like the way it looks (I got the upgrade for free).
For organising my crap I used Adobe PhotoAlbum because it was cheap and it is very easy to use and fairly fast in loading a big database. Now I just use an elaborate structure of folders, and can NEVER find particular pictures because of no tagging. Even batch tagging takes too much time for me, so I gave up.
I got a free evaluation copy of lightroom 1.2 which I might install at some point and see if it solves my problems. I don't like ACDsee.
I had a very cute and tiny batch resizer ment for PDAs, back in the days I thought it was useful to carry 10K photos with me at all times.
I will check PhotoZoom Professional at some point, because I crop a lot but I have a feeling that photoshop can do the same by magnifying and the using unsharp mask.
So what did I miss that can make my work faster/better/more fun?

I am currently using adobe photoshop cs, photomatix pro, and adobe lightroom.

Also... why do you keep talking about how things are cheap or free?

this is the internet. why settle for less than the best?

I use Lightroom and very occasionally Photoshop CS3.

I still use adobe photoshop 7. Works out fantastically. Only used for resizing, creating business cards and occasionally fulfilling a request for someone in /r/

I'm just using Gimp. I really only make adjustments to curves/levels and sharpness, if I do anything at all. Since I never shoot RAW thus far, I haven't bothered to get anything for processing it.

lightroom 95% of the time (i shoot raw only), photoshop cs2 only if i need to retouch which is rare

CS3 for Image Editing and iPhoto 08' for orginization.

At home I can use pirated programs, but at my office at university where I spend most of my time I use the computer they gave me where everything has to be 100% legal. Nobody else uses my comp or checks whats on it (except when its out for maintainance) but still I keep it clean. I have 2 other part time jobs where I use shared computers and so I can't install warez there either. That's where the obsession about prices comes from. progs like Photoshop are rediculously expancive here in Europe.
The photomatix you mention is only good for HDR right? I don't ever get to use HDR so its probably not for me.
here's another cute prog that some of you might find fun to use:
HeavyMath Cam 3D. lets you make stereoscopes. I tried it using 2 identical crappy webcams, and got very poor results.
