Allright, /p/eople, i has created my own little website to show all the world my crappy pictures, gain attention and fame and money and girls. The pix on the site are all 800xsomething. Shall i put them under a creative commons license? Since noone has the originals but me, the originals still carry copyright and i only license the small ones...or what? Any Advice?

My first question would be what good would it do you to release under that licence?
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
Attribution Non-commercial No Derivatives (by-nc-nd)

This license is the most restrictive of our six main licenses, allowing redistribution. This license is often called the “free advertising” license because it allows others to download your works and share them with others as long as they mention you and link back to you, but they can’t change them in any way or use them commercially.

..free advertising ^^

Doesn't that happen all the time on the internet without licences anyway?
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
yes, but w/o people can just steal...i see your point ^^

Just wary that it doesn't really do anything other than possibly water down your rights somehow. If people want to right click-->save then they tend to do it regardless. At least that way you can turn a blind eye to it or plead ignorance until you decide to enforce your rights. I know I've grabbed things for desktops without bothering to look for any CC logo too. Look at the number of image macros that appear everywhere too, I doubt they were chosen because of the CC logo.

It's up to you as it's your images, but make sure you know what you are getting into and that it will benefit you somehow.

It seems really slow and the slithers of images moving past weren't opening up into full views when I clicked on them. Are there any images to see there?
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
try it now...f5 =)

Hey, I just had this really great idea for a gallery interface. You could make it so that users have to wait a long-ass time to see even the thumbnails of the pictures and then--and this is the really clever part--they have to *chase* the thumbnail if they want to see it any larger!

Oh, wait, shit, someone already did it.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>95568

I'm afraid I have to agree with that sentiment. It's entertaining until you actually want to look at any pictures and then it is frustrating or boring as I wait for it to cycle back round.
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
haha, didnt't think from that point of view. i just wanted to do something simplistic - 45 lines of html and 8 of them are the tags for the pictures - if you can code a stoppable rotation that uses that little space tell me how. as long as that is not fixed people will chase thumbnails...they're pretty slow though, might accelerate them a bit to make it more interesting ^^
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>95577
Have you considered, you know, *not* doing that? Just having them on a page where people can go right to the one they want to look at and click on it?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>95577
Also, you've got some errors in your HTML and CSS there. I'm working on it.

(I'm really bored at work right now)
>> Anonymous
you might want to rethink the whole itty bitty bar preview too. a lot of them are just the top of someone's head, or blue. or green. not very good thumbnails since you cant really see anything in them

When I saw your photo on /p/ I was thinking you sucked, but some of the images on your scrolling homepage I like. Good luck

That's actually a bug in his CSS. It looked a lot less annoying after I fixed it.

Dammit, why the hell doesn't CSS have a fucking easy way to vertically center things? Fucking CSS! GRR!

div.something {
height: 100%;
vertical-align: middle;
}

I'll grant vertical-align is a counterintuitive name for something that aligns your shit vertically.

>>95628
Right, except that doesn't actually work.

I know /p/ hates watermarks and all, especially intrusive ones, but have you thought about doing a small watermark ? Or a thin frame with your name, website, and copyright? Christine Kessler does it that way (www.christinekessler.com) It's probably the route i'll end up going when I process everything from this weekend
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
bump for shameless "so, did you make it work?"
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
also, how can you fix my stuff? you override my css with a local stylesheet?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>95685
I made a local copy of your site and futzed with the local copy.

I emailed you a zip of what I'd done to the address given on the page.

the problem with the thin thumbnails seems to be firefux only...also, no email yet which means that i screwed up my forwarding settings
>> Anonymous
why yes i did..typo'd my own adress in the forwarder...would you mind re-sending?

Can't. It's on my work machine in Buffalo, and I'm halfway to St. Louis.

the above statemnts were by me, forgetting what constantly emptying your cache does to your tripcode...

maybe you should have clicking the opening carousel go into some sort of gallery page.
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
can you tell me what magic you worked to make those annoying errors go away?
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
my main problem is that in firefux the "opening carousel" shows the pictures half the height, sometimes not moving - if i link that to a gallery page then you have to find the thumbnail you wanted again, even if you hit it on the first try.

Went to your CSS file, lowercased everything. Also, it's 'sans-serif' not 'sansserif'. Also added a shit-ton of linebreaks and indented everything so it was actually readable, which made the places where you'd forgotten semicolons more obvious.

Indented your HTML properly. This didn't fix anything on its own, but made the spot where you'd missed the URL on one of the thumbnails a lot more obvious.

Took the style definitions out of your HTML since, once they were fixed in the CSS, they worked there. Made your HTML and CSS a hell of a lot simpler using divs and CSS instead of tables, but at the cost of losing the vertical centering.

the solution is to fix your code so it works right.
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
let me rephrase that...my main problem is that i am right now standing in a corner of a japanese mega electric store dressed in a silly apron, the boss knows that there is nothing to do for me and so i am allowed to surf while they deal with the customers and fucking jingle bells is playing in a loop driving me NUTS...and my website doesn't work properly. Also, almost in arms lenght reach on display are nikon D300, Canon EOS 40D, their respective little brothers, a set of L Lenses and more computer parts than you can dream of....its TORTURE
>> Anonymous
yes, but i found indenting the part with the thumbnails to cause small breaks between them to appear
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>95755

They play Jingle Bells and other Christmas songs for this season in Japan too? Unlucky!

Try not to crack. It's not worth it man. Well, not unless you can grab a 1D or 5D and a couple of L lenses or the Nikon equivalent. Knowing how Murphy's law plays its part in these things you are likely to accidentally grab a Sony in the rush out the shop and then what a waste that would be (mandatory Butterfly/Sony related insult).
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
This being a consumer store, there are no cameras greater D300 and 40D.

they switch between jingle bells and silent night, holy night - 3 hours to go...
>> Half-Eye !Ir.x8Zkt3c
30 mins to go..
Jingle bells....jingle bells...40D...40D...
the 40D with the 17-85 IS lenskit is 168000 Yen, which is 1050 in real money and 1550USD...awesome? y/n
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ

From a quick check I can get that kit for £889.99. Maybe less if I really shop around more. Sounds like you get a good price in that shop.

Two songs on a loop? Isn't that a form of torture? :P

Cruel and unusual punishment, at the least.
