every time i pirate an adobe product, I feel like I'm doing something virtuous, for the betterment of monopoly fearing free-market capitalists everywhere

then i remember i pirate their software too

hmm...what all kinds of crap can this one do?
Is it better than cs2? if so just say yes.

Yes.

Lightroom is pretty awesome alright, makes doing touch ups on a bunch of photos a snap. It looks really nifty too.

>>63735
'kay, is it better than CS3? 'Cause I already have CS3 and don't want to install more Adobe AIDS than necessary.

It's NOT photoshop and is not meant to be

It is a completely seperate product, designed only for organizing pictures, importing raw and doing "develop"-type stuff for pro photo. Screenshots are the best place to start.

Well, let me rephrase that: Is it better than CS3 (and CS3's Camera Raw in particular) for importing raw and doing develop-type stuff? Or is it the same functionality in a separate glossy package?

>>63751

Yes, it is. Adds in some better ways to organize the photos as well as some better PP tools; Clarity, for example, is awesome. I use it in conjuction with CS3, whereas I formerly used to use Bibble Pro + CS2.

Well, I went and installed it.

Yeah, there's some stuff that's noticeably better than ACR - zooming tools and before/after view, especially - but GOD I HATE HATE HATE SOFTWARE THAT TRIES TO ORGANIZE MY STUFF IN ITS OWN WAY, WHY THE HELL EVERY FUCKING SOFTWARE MAKER THINKS EVERY PHOTOGRAPHER BADLY NEEDS SOME GAY LOOKING TOOL TO ORGANIZE HIS PHOTOS INTO COLLECTIONS OR SHIT LIKE THAT AND THEY SOMETIMES DON'T EVEN PUT AN OPTION TO EDIT ONE GODDAMN FILE WITHOUT IMPORTING IT INTO THEIR GAY CATALOG AND THEN IT FUCKING YELLS "UR FILE NOT FOUND UR FAGET" WHEN I REMOVE THE DISK WHEN IT JUST NEEDS TO SHUT UP AND ACT AS IF THE FILE WAS NEVER THERE AND DO NOT SHIT UP MY PRIMARY DRIVE WITH ITS FUCKING DATABASE ON HUNDREDS OF IMAGES I BACKED UP ON DVD AND THEN DELETED THE RAWS WITH WINDOWS COMMANDER BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO LOAD UP THE 100 FUCKING MEGABYTE CATALOG UTILITY JUST TO DELETE SOME FILES, I'M SO TIRED OF ALL THAT BLOATED CRAP THEY'RE THROWING ON US THAT IF I FIND THE FAGS WHO INVENTED THE IDEA OF ORGANIZING PHOTOS IN ANYTHING OTHER THAN PLAIN WINDOWS FOLDERS I WILL MAKE THEM REGRET WHAT THEY DID, AND WHILE I'M NOT GEORGE ZIMMER, I STILL GUARANTEE IT

What they should do is just store the filename and maybe a checksum or hash or something of the file, so if it gets moved the program can search for it and check to make sure it's the same file. It's a bit trickier technically, but would lead to a much nicer user experience, I think.

What do you mean by clarity?

I've got a similar question to the poster you responded too, though a bit more limited. Do photographs coming out of Lightroom look any better than if they came out of Camera Raw?

Because I agree with the poster who finds all other LR and similar "functionalities" bullshit.

I don't think there is anything you can do in lightroom that you can't do in photoshop but as far as global adjustments on your photos and minor retouch things will go 10x faster in lightroom because all the tools you'll need are layed out nicely in front of you without all the other stuff in photoshop you likely wouldn't use as often. You'd only really care to get lightroom if you had to deal with a lot of photos at once instead of just one and one photo here or there.

>>63769
its actually useful if you tag your images and its a hell of a lot faster than looking through windows explorer for shit imo and its not like lightroom bitches at you when you move the files it just puts a lil ? mark in the corner and if you want you can tell it to locate the files and once you point to one it'll find the rest -_-; but to each his own i suppose

Actually, it's a quick trick in LR that would take a bit longer to do in Photoshop; it's basically a slider that controls the local sharpness by a certain contrast difference. It's like local-adaptive sharpening with a Unsharp Mask, but well controlled. The best way to describe is it is that it gives photos more "pop."

But yeah; a highly annoying thing is that it will complain if, for whatever reason, it can't find the file because you swapped out the drive that had it or whatever. So if you aren't handling upwards of 100 photos per shoot or if you already have them organized, then going with it wouldn't make sense.

Oh, another note; you still have to calibrate the ACR to your camera if you want, as there are no built-in or generic profiles for any specific model, just an interpolative method (same as ACR uses). If you want to calibrate it, you have to either get the calibration slide and do it yourself, or just use C1 Pro as it already has the calibration curves for just about all cameras in it. Not entirely necessary, but some people swear by color calibration for getting good images

I got banned for this for a month
