Fuji S6500FD Anonymous
Hi
Does anybody have this camera? what are strong and weak sides of it?

I'm just beginning my adventure with photography and I wanted to ask if this camera is good for beginners, I don't want to spend a lot of money but I would like to be able to take more artistic pictures.

Or maybe you can recommend some other gear that is good for learning.

PowerShot A-series. A650IS is my preference.

1. Will give you the same image quality as the bridge camera
2. Will give you the same amount of manual control as the bridge camera
3. Will be a hell of a lot smaller, so you'll be more likely to have it with you when a photographic opportunity presents itself
4. If you do continue your adventure with photography and want to move up to an SLR, the PowerShot will still be useful as a go-anywhere pocket camera whereas this one is too bulky for that duty.
5. Will probably be cheaper.

Basically, superzooms like this are good if you never ever plan to move up to an SLR, or if you really, really need the huge zoom range (pro tip: you probably don't. Most award-winning photographs have been taken in the wide to normal focal ranges). If you're just learning how to take good photos before getting more expensive equipment, a compact P&S with manual controls is a better way to go.

Actually A650IS is more expensive than 6500 and even more expensive than 9500 that has 9mega pixels.
I usually take night pictures in the city and I had P&S camera but the amount of noise in the pictures was terrible, and I heard that s6500 handles well in night shooting.

I know that 10x zoom is not very often used but still it is nice to have the option.

Not unexpected. The A650IS is the top-of-the-line. How much does the 6500 go for? My quick google search shows it only about $20 cheaper than the A650IS...

There are cheaper models in the A-series out there with the same image quality.

True. However, 4x zoom in your pocket is a lot more useful than 10x zoom that you left back at the house because it was too bulky to bring along with you. I used to always carry my superzoom around with me when I had one, and now carry my SLR bag with extra lenses wherever I go, but I'm a bit of a freak. Depends on the OP's tolerance for bringing inconveniently large camera equipment with him wherever he goes.
