I almost managed to get Canon RAW working in Vista.
I installed latest Canon RAW 1.2 (32bit). I runned 32bit shell (%systemroot%\explorer.exe), and now I can see some RAW files as "normal" thumbnails (don't know why only some, and not all).
But, how do I open them in Windows Photo Gallery? It is working behind explorer.exe process, so which switch I need to open RAWs in there? x64 WPG doesn't open them.
(Any sense in what I'm writing?)

solution: uninstall vista and wait until it works right.

Or wait until the next OS comes out in a year or so.

I've tried using it, but I have found it a bit ankward to use. And heavy.
Either it just sucks on some parts, or I don't have a clue what is the proper way to use it.

To be honest I'm leaning towards getting a Mac system, at least for image editing to start with. I've been impressed with them so far.

fuck, I currently do all my image editing on a four year old ibook g4.

Hooked up a nice 250 gig external hardrive and just work directly to it off of adobe lightroom

Have the whole adobe cs3 suite installed, it all runs VERY fast. (with said external hardrive as scratch disk)

And use 10.4.10, with 1.2 gigs of ram.

So, yeah, I can only imagine what the more contemporary apple computer could pull off.

The only thing holding back was compatibility with other software or a lack of software, which is why I'd have to be getting it purely for image editing (at least at first). That way I wouldn't be setting myself up for disappointment.

well, remember that the newer intel macs can duel boot to a windows operating system.

The only thing you'll really miss out on without dual booting is games.

Macs, really... don't have a huge amount of games.

For everything else though, it's aaaall good.

for image editing, the only thing windows doesnt have is aperture. lightroom however is available of course, so i dont really see why you would buy a computer just for that. hardcore video editing mac has the edge, but short of that, its not much different. i think mac being associated with video and picture editing nowadays is mostly to be hip and stuff anyway
