Portrait Assignment heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
I've got a portraiture assignment due today, with a lot of focus put on the lighting. I'm having a hard time deciding between these two pictures as my chosen edits for "butterfly" style lighting. Halp plz? Criticism is welcome too, this was my first time to ever shoot in a studio environment.

srsly though, this thing is due in like 7 hours. Which one do you like better?
>> Anonymous
fix the levels a lil bit on #1 and i bet you'll be good

or #2 if you can convince the teacher you were going for high-key also

but i like #1
>> utopian !!3YJU/k9Wuhz
I think the first would be a more viable option. The second seems too harsh due to the amount of white in the lower half. I disagree that the levels on 1 need to be tweaked, but what do I know...

How about this one? It's got a lot more energy, but it's quirkier, which can be good or bad, depending.

Thoughts?

Hahaha, oh wow. I never noticed the henna on her arm. That makes it so much kewler.

Also, these were all shot with a Quantaray 70-210 f/4-5.6. Shitty lens, but it gives photos a really pleasant glow, almost like a Hallmark card or something.

try setting your white balance to florescent or tungsten next time your indoor shooting and not using a flash

Whiskey India November.
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
Yeah, totally my mistake. I realized when I got out of the studio that my white balance was set on outdoors (a sun) instead of incandescents (a lightbulb). The only difference between the icons is that the sun has lines emanating in every direction, whereas the lightbulb has lines emanating in the bottom 180 degrees. Fail.

You really caught her at a bad facial expression, hmm?
>> Anonymous
>>39181
...not to mention that her eye liner isn't evenly put on both eyelids. It just stands out more since her eyes are closed in this shot.

>>39182
This picture doesn't do too much for me. Maybe it's the angle, but I think it's more her expression... kind of boring.

some backlighting or a bounce board behind her would separate her from the background a bit. as is her dark hair kind of blends into the back. and the white balance does seem to be off, but that's a stylistic choice.

>>39241
Is superior, I like that a lot. Get her to do more like that with different expressions, even a granier version of that would be very artistic and look superior under B&W

I tried so many different poses. Basically, I had the graduate studio reserved for all of 45 minutes, so that's why so many of these are completely rushed, unrefined, and sloppy, not to mention it was my first time in a studio environment. Next time I'll come more prepared, and with a better idea of what I want to do.

Thanks so much for the comments, guys.
