I am thinking of buying a camcorder, but i want to see the pro's and cons of miniDV cassettes and 3" mini DVD's. The cameras I am debating also use usb ports not firewire so that no longer is a factor like it was for my friend's choice.

Any1 know some pros and cons? I am tinking miniDV because from what i saw they record longer and make it easier to record over footage and thus save recording time.

Any useful input out there is hould know?

i have no firewire ports. Any1 have a solution? I presume they must have adapters or such.

There are expansion cards that allow your computer to have additional firewire ports.

google is your friend.

Sure they're nice but you don't need firewire.

Don't get a miniDVD camcorder, the video quality is terrible. miniDV is the way to go, hell even super 8 is about the same quality as mini DVDs.

mini-DV's present the ease of editing and DVD-like quality. mini-DVDs however suck. Despite touting DVD quality, you must finalize every disc before you can access the information that is on it. Also, like VHS tapes, recording over mini-DV's will degrade the quality. You can do it, but I wouldn't do it for important events.
