thinking of a scanner.
instead of like a nikon 5000 scanner
why cant i just use a DSLR with a slide copy attachment? it would be a LOT faster. and prabably cheaper

Got ICE ?

ice slows scanners down to a CRAWL. i suppose you could use a IR sensitive dslr but i dont think theres software do help.

I used to do this, had a flash firing from below through a peice of paper.

IT works alright, but its a pain to do because the film curves.
It worked well for slides, but negatives was very difficult

You will obviously get better quality out of a dedicated scanner, but if you need to do a few its not too unreasonable.

dont know if all ICE is created equal but the one on my epson sucks cancerous monkey balls

I macgyvered a DSLR, a flash, some paper, Meccano parts and remains of an old slide projector to reshoot lots of slides. It works.

Pros:
- Far better handling of underexposed/discolored slides, especially with some creative use of color filters on the lens or on the flash.
- Five times the speed of a film scanner.

Cons:
- No automatic dust/scratch removal. ARRGHH. A fan and a soft brush is a must.
- Negatives require some tinkering in Photoshop.
- You can't get more megapickles then your DSLR has.
- Making a decent holder for uncut film requires some work.

Just go work at a photo lab at a drugstore. You get to goof around and get paid for it.
