clean the glasses next time. reduce iso to get rid of the noise. lighting is interesting, i dont like the motif.

Hey nice idea for a shot but poorly executed.

The left side is overexposed and the face is too hidden. Try experimenting with flash maybe. Also, see if you can implement her necklace, it might give the photo a fashion-ish touch.

OP here.

The ISO is at 320, Nikon DSLRs don't really GO much lower than that. Noise probably comes from lightening shadows some in RAW conversion. I can't get a serial for Noise Ninja to work, otherwise I would have de-noised it, because that's one of my concerns with this image as well.

The left side is overexposed due to PP; I like portraits that gravitate towards high-key. But I probably could at least save the highlights in her hair if I reshot it.

I also could've sworn I had my SB-800 filling in for this shot, but EXIF says not. Huh. I had it with me that day. Oops.

high key !== overexposure

she looks like she's meant to be smiling, but you can't see enough of it to have an effect. i don't really mind overexposed parts of a photo so i'm not complaining there but clean glasses/more of mouth/eye expression would make this a winner.

Actually, it is. If you have an overall bright scene with a bright background, the average meter reading given to you by your camera will average out the tones and you'll get middle values. You have to overexpose to get tones that are higher key. Doesn't anyone know the Zone System? That's all it is...

Thanks for pointing that out, I really agree. Hopefully I'll be able to get her back for a reshoot, and I'll try these. I took a couple more with this idea, but I'm not sure they'd be any better.

Here's the only other one from that subset I didn't delete. What say you, /p/? Originally I liked the first one better, but now I'm not sure. This one seems to have fallen more on the suggestions that have been made. Used flash, more of face, less "overexposed"... The one sad thing is the reflection in her glasses :(

technical quality is way better imo, but I like the 1st one better, too. you might want to use a polarizing filter to reduce reflection in the glasses. and whats that dirt below the models lower lip?

>>223195

mmm, no
thats not what high key means.

>>223221

A combination of freckles and a very poor shadow from a leaf, I think :/

For some reason I don't have any polarizing filters. That is a good idea, though. I'm flat-broke right now, however :(
