note, this was when my teacher gave me some iso 50 film and I hadn't used it before so I didn't really know what was going to happen with the background.

it's not that you can't make this your career, it's that you have a long way to go before that happens, and you'll likely give up before then.

If this is the sort of stuff you feel is worth posting on the internet then.... my god... what sort of crap didn't make the grade to be posted here

to the OP.

if your are interested in making photography your career dont listen to a word /p/ has to say. most, if not all are too busy slapping each other on the back when they buy a cannon xti or whatever the European equivalent is. /p/ really has no taste or understanding of what photography is and tends to be populated buy a few tripfags and their sock puppets. having done my BA in photography i can honestly say that 99% of ppl here have no idea about what photography is. far too many ppl caught up in megapixles and shutter speeds.....etc

the simple fact that many think that pkscott(whatever) is an original and talented photographer is enough for you to shy away and just keep doing what makes you happy. its simply shows how little /p/ knows. /p/ is at best a bitching forum for those that cant be fucked to argue over is the ps3 is better than the xbox and so turn their attention to other purchases they can argue over.

This is correct, however the shit OP posted still sucks hard.

OP, if you want to be a professional photographer, start working extremely hard. Good business sense may be more important than photographic skill, but you still need a reasonable level of competence. Take a few classes, make it a point to shoot at least 200 well thought out photos a month, and in five to ten years you might be ready to consider a career in photography.

why?

at this time, in 2008, being a good photographer has NOTHING to do with craft and everything to do with creativity.

there are hundreds and thousands of good photographer...whats sets them aside from the rest........

Pick up a book on basic design. Learn how to keep the eye in the frame. The dark parts have no detail so they are just voids. There's no single subject that acts as a point of interest.

at this time, in 2008, being a good photographer and being a successful photographer have nothing to do with each other.

There are many mediocre photographers who make decent livings with their cameras. There are many brilliant photographers who can't pay their rent. What is necessary to succeed as a professional photographer is a reasonable skill level such that you can deliver a product that is 60% of what the client has in mind, and the business skill to market yourself successfully and run a sound operation. Creativity is helpful but far from required.
