I just got a new iMac, and I'm totally psyched. I can finally run Lightroom blazingly fast! Photography is awesome again, now that I have a computer to work on. :D

So uh, I import all my RAW files from Bridge to Photoshop.

What does Lightroom do that I can't do with Photoshop? Anything I'm missing?
>> heavyweather !4AIf7oXcbA
Better batch operations, faster workflow, more optimized interface for photography. The main thing I miss from PS is dodge/burn tools.

Post some screenshots, please.

Yeah, I know, Google. But I prefer seeing people's stuff.

Hmm, how did you align the dock to the right? And why aren't you using Leopard?

i dont like using lightroom to archive, only editing one at a time.

awww i want lightroom....

too bad my trial version buggered up and therefore put me off buying the full version for fear it would do the same. and judging by the lack of support i got from adobe and the adobe forums it made me really question it.

on a side point, i read into the help and support pages on adobe and they seemed pretty anal about actually helping you...

lightroom is a good program when it works :D

I had that problem with aperture, but lightroom has been a dream. I haven't had a single problem with it.

I think it's just because I've used bridge a lot more, but I didn't like Lightroom all too much, I just found bridge nicer to work with.

What advantages/disadvantages does it have over Aperture? I'm still using Bridge to Photoshop too.

Is Lightroom better to use for photos than Photoshop? What about DxO?

No, and DxO does some stuff much better than Photoshop, though you could get the same results if you spent enough time fudging around.

It's a superior operating system with superior software and an overall better user experience. Steve Jobs doesn't have anything to do with it. I started loving macs long before I ever watched a Stevenote.

Cult of Personality is a sweet song though.

I see what you did there...

I run lightroom on my PC since its faster than my G4. The down side is reliability with the windows operating system. Theres a special feeling you get when you have a deadline to meet and your PC craps out on you and you don't have time to trouble shoot it.

They're basically the same thing, other than the user interface looks a bit different. I preferred lightroom's because it seemed more intuitive coming from many years of using photoshop. Aperture's UI used symbols I didn't recognize, histograms that I was not used to reading, and generally confused me. I'm sure I could have gotten used to it, but stability was the tie breaker.

Aperture was slow and buggy and tended to choke with raw files or large imports. It crashed a lot, and it was running on a core duo macbook, so it should have had enough resources to work with. On the other hand, lightroom has been perfectly stable, reliable, and fast.
