It's snowing... hard, and I want to get a good photo of it, problem is. If I take the picture with the flash on, it looks like this.

If not, it's just black. Any reccomendations to get a better photo of the snow?

don't listen to this guy
your camera already performs very badly at ISO 400, bumping it up more would be a very bad idea.
>It'll make the picture look a little grainy, but if you hold still and then edit it on your computer, the grain will look intentional.
lolol

Use a tripod and get a time exposure of probably 20-30 seconds.

lololol
is /p/ stupid today or what =D

setting it to 30 seconds won't capture the snow at all, it would need some more EXTREM SHUTTER SPEED
but yea, LISTEN TO>>122396
find a source of natural light and use that, do not go above ISO 400.

was my first thought then i thought about it for a second and went "WOW THAT WONT WORK AT ALL IM A DUMB ASS FOR THINKING THAT"

Hm. If you have a long exposure on it though, won't it capture like the streaks the snow are falling in?

getting the flash further from the lens would help, but looks like your camera is a point and shoot so can't do that. i've had a little luck with a flash angled upward on my camera.>>122396is still probably the best option - find another bright light source that isn't attached to your camera and turn your flash off

it will likely look ugly as shit

Yeah, I tried that. Looked like I applied some shitty texture in Photoshop.

If I were to use a flash light. Would I want it shining from beind the camera, or perpundicular to the camera? Or would it not matter?

umbrella or awning so there isn't any snow right in front of the lens bouncing the flash back.

ISO 200
f/2.8
1/800th of a second.
Set flash to two stops above ambient.

Preset focus to the hyperfocal distance and/or halfway through the distance of the snow you want to capture. Will work in the midafternoon under heavy clouds.

Long exposure of snow will look something like this.

(If on a tripod, less blurry than this handheld shot of mine)
