Hey /p/

My last camera got borked so now I finally got an excuse to go DSLR :D

I got my eyes on a Canon EOS 400D, but regarding the lenses I'm still undecided on getting the 18-55 Canon ones, or this one: SIGMA Objective 28-300 mm DG F3.5-6.3 MACRO - anyone got any opinions on it? Image quality, speed, etc.

Also, anyone know any good stores on the internet that are in/ship to Europe? (Yeah, I know it would be better to buy off a local merchant, but here in Portugal, electronic consumer goods tend to be quite inflated in price :[ )

Pic unrelated, a shot from Lisbon.

hey man

i bought the 400D a little while ago, and it's a wonderful easy to use DSLR.
BUT, the 18 55 lens it comes with is hardly impressive.
if you'll only be taking basic (very basic) shots with it then you'll be fine.
for anything more advanced, look for other lenses and go Body only.

The 18-55 is great for wide angle on a dSLR. It's hard to get anything even as wide, much less wider, without paying greater than the price of the camera body on the lens. The sigma mentioned has a 28mm wide end, which is barely less than Normal on a 1.6x crop.

First of all, Sage for a DSLR gear thread

Second, Get the 24-105 F4 IS USM, The 28-300's are all crappy lenses, They have been replaced with 18-200's nowadays which all suck aswell (The Nikon 18-200 VR sucks the least but still its an ultrazoom with mucho distortion)

Get a 50mm f1.8, if you have to buy on the cheap (Actually get it anyway it is a great lens)

I like this photograph, it has a very nice angle. You could cut out that shit on the left side though and maybe crop it a little at the top.
