Underexposed, horrible vignette/age shoop filter looks incredibly tacky, focus is a bit off (possibly too slow of shutter speed). I'm guessing it was sundown? Try using a lower f-number and putting your dog at rest if this was an action shot, otherwise don't trust the AF/learn to trust the AF.

So, your manual focus was a little off, it seems more focused on the leash/chain which should be about -3 inches off from the center of the z-axis in the photo space. We all make this mistake from time to time.

Exposure at sundown can be tricky, since there is no blinding ball of light in the sky directly lighting your subject, so you can't just auto-exposure compensate a lot of the time. I tend to shoot a little bright at sundown and dark at sunup just to look more pleasing.

Placement is good, good use of negative space, but the actual subject is a little unsettling. It seems like he's looking at something that should be in frame. It's usually best to focus head-on or 3/4 with a subject that has a face, unless it's a pure action shot.

I think your dog pic would benefit from black and white. In fact all dog pics could benefit from black and white.
