Overcast day for lots of light, keep your apeture small so you have a big sweet spot, f8 is good if you have enough light, bump to iso400 if nesc. Can go higher if you are having big troubles getting one in focus but it'll get softer from diffraction (better than out of focus).
Servo autofocus can work fucking wonders when your swaying around and the wind is blowing, but often youll need to resort to manual focus. Swaying gently back and forth and taking the picture when its sharpest in the viewfinder can work pretty well, specially at f8+.
The pic you posted also has a fair amount of motion blur, make sure your shutter is at least 1/50 if not more like 1/100+ if there is wind and shit.
I find manual exposure is really good for macro/insects 'cause you can make sure you keep the shutter fast enough, the DoF big enough etc.
