OP here, Auto focus and Auto exposure? I pretty much fail.
>> Anonymous
Is that a macro lens?
>> Anonymous
wait. Tv mode and you set it to .4 sec?
>> Anonymous
Yeah, I'm just a beginner. I've got quite a bit to learn. The lens used was an EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM Macro Autofocus Lens. Any tips or suggestions are welcome to prevent further failures.

I could take a better picture than that with a PowerShot.

Although I would like my very own 60mm macro lens.

another waste of a good camera.

tell your mom thanks.

If you're such amazing photographers, show us your awesome pictures or shut the fuck up, faggots.

Do you tell people to make their own food when they think the chef sucks at a restaurant, or are you just a faggot.

OP's shit sucks. More specifically, it's a picture of something a lot of us see all the time, but it's not a particularly fresh way of looking at it. Either take pictures of interesting shit, or take interesting pictures of shit. So far OP has done neither.

Also OP should learn to Google and find a basic guide to exposure before he buys such a nice lens.

the guy can't even fucking expose the picture
I guess any /p/tard can do that, I would flame this as well, the angle is not that bad but, dof is meh, badly exposed etc.

Instead of offering constructive criticism, the two of you (or same fag?) are saying that it's "another waste of a good camera" and praising your own skills with a P&S when the picture has absolutely nothing to do with you. In other words, you're just being assholes. Fuck off.

i love /p/ flamewars. they're all the same. some newfag posts total garbage, usually a macro of something that was sitting in front of him when he opened his new camera for the first time, everyone flames him for being retarded enough to think that this is groundbreaking work, and he comes to his own aid joined by a couple other noobs who know they suck at photography by challenging people to do better.

this usually degrades to petty namecalling.

op i think that its very cute that you got such a nice lens for channukah. but until you learn how to put light through it correctly, keep learning on your own.

OP here, thanks for the encouragement. I wasn't expecting any to start with just by posting on /p/ so it's no big deal. And that's exactly what this picture was, I was sitting on my couch messing with the camera that I just got last week because I was tired of taking shitty pictures with my point and shoot. Looks like I'll continue taking horrible pics till I learn my equipment better!

And, uh, just because it's a picture of an xbox controller doesn't mean I'm 14 years old. I work for a living and live on my own.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
I would say you've made a good choice of lens and camera body to work with. It'll last you ages. It's a great little lens.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
/p/ is just as savage as the other boards, dont expect us to be nice to people we are not DA.

If you want empty praise post it on your myspace, if you want the harsh truth post it here.

holy shit, butterfly owned on this one.
yeah yeah, I'm not here for "hey, nice choice on lens!" and another bullshit, I'm here to say that picture is crap, and by saying that, I'm encouraging the op to study, learn and post better stuff, or he can go to DA and people would tell it's great and he will always take these shots

and btw, even if you level raep the pic, it would still be crap

I quite like it (I don't think it would be bad for a wallpaper), but yeah, exposure's off. Besides that, it could've been sharper.

What a fucking waste of the 60mm.

A point and shoot on auto with macro turned on will make a better shot.

Stop posting until you know how to use it.

Post pictures of your vagina with your 60 mm.

Op here, I'm pretty much in agreement that the picture is horrible. The best part is, it was one of the better first few shots I took with my lens/camera!

And yes, I would much rather post here than myspace or deviantart and get the honest truth if I were to post a picture that I actually that was good.

I just get the camera last week and have very minimal experience with photography. My thought going into my new venture was that a good entry level DSLR would be better than something I would be more restricted on. I've been reading a ton of guides online and getting tips from people. Hopefully it won't be long before I can contribute quality pictures of my own!
