There's no real reason to have both a D3 and a D300, unless you absolutely need a backup camera with the same featureset, ie, your camera is paying for your beer, pizza, and Internet axx. I would personally advise LF, as it's about as far from the D3/D300 as you can get (well, besides a set of paintbrushes...), so it will give you a much broader photographic palette.
tl;dr: fill the farthest-apart parts of the spectrum first.
