Got a camera Anonymous
Nothing high end, just a simple camera that I got for my birthday and now as I sit here I wonder, would it be possible to open up he camera and replace the lens on this somehow?

Yes. Just wedge a kitchen knife in any cracks around the lens and push hard. It'll pop out eventually. You can then swap in whatever you like. If you find a good lens you can trim the edges off of the glass and then pop it in. It'll all work a-ok.

Why does this totally sound like it won't work....

If you don't want to do that you could duct tape or glue a good lens on the front, but you won't get all the metering and automatic functions. All the pros do it all the time of course. Nothing like kitchen knives and duct tape to round off a camera kit bag.

Because it's kind of ridiculous to expect to replace the lens on a cheap P&S camera.

Eh, yeah it is, I was more so just curious to see if it can be done somehow. I'll probably just get a new camera if I like photography.

why don't you take it apart properly? like unscrewing and taking the camera apart...rememeber each step so you can work your way back.

Infact, do us all a favour and reverse engineer a better P&S

I have the coolpix L3 and as far as cheep cameras go, its really not bad at all.

i personally am very pleased with it. It dose far more than I would have ever expected out of a $100 camera.
