just something i thought might be a little interesting, post your pics of your view finder haha, something i haven't seen on here before yet.

please ignore the poor quality, it was more tricky than i thought.

well, to start it off, this one will be a familiar sight to all those D70(s) owners out there...

now this one is not so common, a lovely Nikon F5 (with a 50mm f/1.8)

you can see compared to the previous D70, its a lot bigger!

my viewfinder is too damn big to photograph ;-;

Nikon FM.my F301 is about the same I guess

I really wish my D50's had grid-lines. I have a habit of always taking shots 1 degree slanted, and it infuriates me.

haha i have the same problem with my F5 coz its so heavy and i have a weak wrist from when i broke it. I could buy a grid line focus screen, but they are $$$

Looks a lot like the D80's one. At first I hated the fact that it's dividing the focusing view into four quadrants vertically and horizontally as opposed to thirds (to apply rule of thirds) but when the pictures come out, the image captured is a lot larger than the view in the viewfinder, that it almost approximates the rules of thirds.

I have a special place in my heart for split-image focusing screens. But I often find myself twisting the camera to strange orientations to try to find something to focus against.

I'm glad there's a fake match needle on my D70, not that I can use it with most of my lenses.
I really hate the screen though, has anyone used one of those katz eye aftermarket screens?

My kingdom for an FE2-D :3

katz eyes are great but expensive. they're meant for super telephoto lenses, so the split-screen wouldn't go dark on small apertures. other brands make affordable and good focusing screens.

first one, light meter on the right

second one, couldn't catch it in one photo

shutter speed on the left. aperture on top, it works with a small window in the head, reading aperture of the lens.

o rly?
The only other place I've heard people mention was a chinese company selling them through a forum. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I couldn't find anything talking about if they were fine screens.
I can't find anything on bh or keh, I'd appreciate a url, if you've got one.

Ideally, I'd like a mattefresnel like the old red-dot E, but I'm not sure if the mirror+smallVF would offer any improvement VS. the stock screen.
So, a working mattefresnel/split(45', preferrable) might be better.

i find split screens too hard to use in dark situations
