need a macro Anonymous
So want a macro, Canon EF 50mm f2.5 Macro or the Sigma 50mm F2.8 EX DG. GO!
>> Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH
Sigma on crop body = 50mm
Canon on crop body = 80mm~
..?
>> Anonymous
Do you shoot full-frame? If not, get the ef-s 60mm 2.8 macro.

No. NO. NOOOOOOOOO.

Are you on drugs?
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
Remember the Canon 50mm needs the life size extender attachment if you want 1:1. If you can use EF-S lenses then the 60mm would be your best bet. Excellent image quality even for a macro lens.

I don't shoot Canon, I was assuming, sorry.
I suck dicks

Got to give credit to an honest man who'll admit fault. A rare thing nowadays.

It's not really complicated. It's always been written this way since the dawn of photography too. It's the most sensible way of doing it.

Same person.

Jesus FUCK why are we still having to go over this.

A 50mm is a 50mm is a 50mm. All of them provide the same field of view (assuming an infinite image circle, which is not the case but bear with me).

In practice, the variable involved is the sensor size. If you're using the same cropped sensor camera, then all 50mm lenses will give the same field of view.

It's not "made" complicated at all. This is just basic math, if not just common sense. Photographers have had to juggle around different film sizes and focal lengths in their head for decades - this isn't something that the camera companies just invented to fuck with dumb people like you.

I think this is something that seems to trip up a lot of people, especially in recent years since the digital age was in full swing.

If it helps any of you the camera (s) i have are da rebel xt and EOS ELAN IIe (digital does EF-S, Film does EF) and i want an EF mount so i can go from my digital and my Film with one lens. i can't with the 60mm EF-S canon sorry
>> Anonymous
If you want a lens that can be digital or film and do macro, get canon's EF 100mm f/2.8 USM macro lens. Also works great as a portrait lens.

Don't have much experience with macro lenses at all but I've played around with the Sigma and the focusing action is very quick and fluid with good tactile response.
The guy who owns it doesn't use it for macro at all, basically has his camera for sports and vacations.

Macro tubes says what?

seconding the EF 100mm f/2.8
>> Anonymous !nzFagDPRLs
>>270314

This is a great lens, or if you dont care too much about having quiet autofocus, and wanna save some bucks the tamron 90mm is pretty much equal in optical performance :3

is the 100mm canon macro true 1:1? and wouldn't 100mm be too long at some points? was that a stupid question?
>> Blackadder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>270761

It is true 1:1 and a damn good lens, but what focal length is best depends entirely on what you plan to do with it and your own personal preferences.

Have a look at the working distances for them and think of how you'd be using it.

i came to the conclusion that Martin is an idiot after reading this thread

It took you the entire thread?

well i was going to let it slide for the first post then he kept going dumber and dumber after every post

so i found this lens (sigma) on a second hand website but they don't know what camera it fits. they did say that it had a red dot on the mount and serial # 3006890. would the red dot mean canon EF?
>> Anonymous
sigmas have white dots
>> Anonymous
>>271713

uhhh it has a red dot? and the question is if the red dot signifies its a canon EF lens. i have a couple sigmas for canons and they have red dots as well... just curious if it is a universal symbol for only canon lenses
>> Anonymous
>>271770

uhhh and i'm telling you sigmas have white index dots? and they're all red on the lens mount
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>271770
Nope, lots of lenses that aren't for Canon have red dots. Leica and Minolta MD come to mind.
