Sup /p/,

I have a 20D with the new 70-300mm lens. Today I used it a bit, put on a different lens, then put the 70-300 back on and started getting err 01 in the camera (means there is a comm problem between the camera and lens). I tried cleaning the contacts with a damp piece of paper and it took a couple of shots and then went back to erroring. Does anyone have any ideas of what else I can try?

Yeah tried all of the above. This is the first time i've had any problems and have had the lens for 2 years.

Alright. It seems that I can take one shot, unscrew the lens, the screw it back in without removing it from the mount and holding down the black release button and i will take one shot then go back to showing an aperture of 00. But at least I seem to have gotten it to take shots fairly consistently with this method. Gonna be a bitch shooting aviation this way :/

Watch out, this happened to me before and the data wasn't saved onto the card, ie. no photo. Check the playback.

Yeah, I have no clue why this happens with some Canon bodies, but I notice it's usually with Tamron glass :(

Check more reputable forums and Canon's website. I doubt you're still under warranty if it's a 20D, but it sounds like you might hafta ship it in for repairs. Good luck, OP.

Yup, they came up on playback. If the aperture goes to 00 there is no err 01, it just doesn't allow you to shoot anything, if it errors you have to restart the camera and then unscrew and rescrew the the lens. I actually got it to the point where I shot a bunch of pics before it went to 00. I'll just have to time my shots carefully to get a desirable result with one shot instead of taking a bunch like usual. And yeah the warranty is long over on both the camera and the lens. Since I'm not home now, i'll just have to shoot the way I described for the rest of my trip then send it into Canon once I get home :\

The op photo was taken with the Tamron 14mm f/2.8 btw.

try killing yourself

drat, I have a sigma 70-300 from my previous camera (eos film) and worked perfectly.

On my 40D, works - say once, then ERR 01. Tried cleaning, restarting, and all, but I am lucky if I get it going once.
