HDR photography Anonymous
Hey /P/,

I want to get into HDR photography, because some of the stuff I've seen done is really impressive.

I'm currently scouting the internets for information on cameras to use, camera settings, how to do it all.

Can anyone here help?

Thanks /P/

use hdr for everything because that is the only good way to get pictures.

Awesome! But how? Little bit of a n00b here.

Say I'm looking at buying a digital camera. What should i be looking for in a camera to be able to do this stuff?

Camera isn't all that important, just something with a decent resolution and the ability to capture RAW. Everything else is done in post.

Oh kay, cool!

So, i get myself a nice, hi-res camera, that takes RAW photos.

Shoot with tripod, at different brightnesses, then i pretty much know the rest.

Thanks /P/!

Actually, im the other way. I know what im doing on the photoshops, but am a n00b with photography.

So, /P/.

Now that I kinda know what I'm doing, I want to move from my Holga, LomoFisheye2 and Olkskool Medium format cameras, and get a nice D-SLR camera.

Wana keep in the $1000 price range.

Any recomendations?

did you not see me make that mistake about reading the ops post, and then DELETE MY POST BECAUSE THATS NOT WHAT THE OP IS TALKING ABOUT.

Did i say all he wanted to do was HDR? No. I said there is a REASON to and if he does it OUTSIDE of that reason or IMPROPERLY it will more than likely turn out looking like shit. Then i suggested that to learn when to use it, learn photography in general first then learn WHEN it is APPROPRIATE to use it and how to do it PROPERLY.

Anon is right. You can be a great photographer without even knowing how to do HDR. It's really not used very often in professional work.

"Just using HDR for the sake of making an HDR picture is stupid and pointless"

I don't see why i cant learn about it, or even discuss it here without being threatened to have a camera stabbed in my face.

Obviously you're here just to be an unhelpfull dick.

Huh. Wow. For once, there's not eight threads discussing which entry-level dSLR to buy on the front page alone.

Your main choices are the Nikon D40 or D40x and the Canon Rebel XT or XTi. There are a few others out there (Sony Alpha A100, Pentax K100D, Olympus E330 off the top of my head). Those of us on /p/ except for the few who bought one of the littler brands love our Canons and Nikons. Those who bought the littler brands argue voraciously for them, but never get anywhere.

Don't get the D40x. If you want to go with the Nikon system, get the D40. The extra pixels of the D40x aren't worth the extra cost--it's basically just in the lineup so that Nikon can compete against Canon with an entry level 10MP SLR. On the other hand, the XTi actually does have advantages over the XTi beyond just higher resolution, so it's a valid choice over the XT.

The two systems are close enough in capabilities that the main decision you have to make is which one you personally feel more comfortable with. Go down to a store that sells 'em both, try 'em out in your hand, see which one you prefer. Then, buy that one.

Or go used,
then you can get the ultimate budget setup
D50 or D70 + 50mm f1.8
Canon has the 300D or 350D and 50mm f1.8

Cost will be less than 600$ guarunteed.

You've already been given help. It takes about 2 seconds to google up HDR and figure out how to do it.

If you read my Original Post, you'll see that i all ready said I was scouting the internet (google) learning stuff.

I also figured I'd see if /P/ had any advice.

A100 is awesome btw, wait for A300 if you decide to get one tho.

You don't want a 50mm as your only lens on a crop sensor.

True, I was more getting at that as a good starting point, I would never recommend the 18-55 even for a budget lens, So I figured highlighting the cost savings of buying used would open up the budget for a second lens (or third maybe)
