Handpods? SophiaLee
I was wondering if anyone used these. Do they actually work and could you recommend a good one?

Thank you ^_^

What would you be using it for? You aren't going to see any improvement in your pictures thats for sure... In fact i would imagine it would make the camera more unstable if you hold it that way.

I believe that is a doodad for the rich to hold their cameras. Or a monopod. You pick.

That is the dumbest thing I've seen today. And I've looked in *several* mirrors.

Camera shake is a common problem in these small digital cameras, so I guess if it helps it's a good thing.

I don't see how it could help with camera shake. If nothing else, it looks like it'd make it a little more awkward to hold, which would increase camera shake. I googled this thing and the web site I found selling 'em didn't seem to claim that it helped with camera shake, just that it helped with 'stability'. Apparently by giving you something to grip besides, you know, the camera. The camera that's almost always styled specifically to be gripped itself.

So yeah. Stupid.

The camera is only as stable as the last thing it is being supported by. For some people, holding the handpod is better because they can keep it in that position better. But if your hands are jittery, then you're changing possible vertical motion to horizontal motion. If you can keep your arm braced to your side while using it, it serves some purpose, but other than that, it's not going to work to solve all of your problems. Just get a small tripod.

I use one most of the time. It really helps with the camera shake. Actually, birdwatchers use a holder like that with their binoculars. The reason why this helps with the shake is that you are supporting the camera with your left hand now, and the muscles of your arm are in the most relaxed position. Turning your wrist or arm from that position will increase load on your muscles and result in shaking. That's why also gun handles are positioned/shaped like that.

Most people don't get instructions on how to grip their camera for stability. Hell, I had to look it up, but it made a huge difference. This avoids that with a quick-fix, but learning to grip is way more effective.

try taking a picture of your camera with a candlestick jammed in it
