/p/, I've got a Lumix DMC-FZ18 (decent amateurfag here) and I'm thinking of upgrading to a used SLR when christmass cash rolls in, because it takes a fuck of a long time to get a good focus on anything with the manual feature. Any suggestilons of what what won't have completely been fucked up after it's been used?

tl;dr - suggestions for finding a used dSLR that can hammer nails

Canon EOS 10/20/30/40D are your only options for non-pro and non-plastic.
Nikon's non-pro stuff (Dxx) is sturdy, but not impressively so, and is all plastic all the time. Weird how times have changed; we used to bitch about Canons being plastic...

Holy crap, there's a craigslist Manila? brb, looking for unusual sex.

pro tip, every non pro body including the 2 digits canon and nikon have, *GASP* plastic shells

THE MORE YOU KNEW

even the entry level canon and nikon have metal chassis, they don't make plastic cameras anymore, this isn't the 80s

okto reminds me of some other idiot poster on another forum who keeps on trashing entry level dSLR bodies because they're "plastic"

he has a raging hardon about them and posts in every single camera thread over there to rage about how they're horrible and you would be better off with a Canon G9 instead, and then goes on to say how shitty Canon Rebels are because they're "plastic"

fuck that guy

Protip: Magnesium is a metal. l2 held camera

OP wanted to hammer nails. Ever driven nails with a plastic hammer? Sure, he's probably not ACTUALLY going to shingle a roof with it, but the point is he wanted tough.
I've had to subject my cameras to things no plastic-shelled camera would have survived, stainless subframe or no. Just because you don't need tough gear doesn't mean no one does.

sorry, i don't speak english. i meant stainless steel

even semi pro models are still wrapped in plastic over the magnesium or steel body

Wow, way to do it wrong. Cool story, bro.

Psst. Don't tell anyone. The windshield of fighter jets are made of plastic.

Also, anything with moving parts should not be banged around. Even if a camera is made completely of metal and weighs a fuckton, if it's got a mechanical shutter, it can break from shock.

in 10 years of taking photographs and holding cameras i have dropped a camera ONE TIME. and it wasn't even my camera. chyah

if you are dropping your equipment enough that "PLASTIC JUST WONT CUT IT" i suggest you fucking retire immediately and go pull up a rocking chair next to micheal J fox, because you are a fucking ape
