Newfag here.

I have a d40 - With the normal lense

Basically taking pics are a snap - I even have the magic lantern dvd.

Alright so i noticed that the pictures are basically shitty

What lense must i have- I DO long range photography

Like taking pics from far away or medium range

Also what Telephoto lens should i get for long - medium distance

PLease I love photography - But i can't seem to find a site to get started with the basic needs
>> Anonymous
If the pictures are shitty then don't waste money on expensive tele glass. Get good with what you've got and THEN pay out your ass for a good telephoto.
>> Anonymous
I understand what you mean

But no matter how concentrated if keep the camera

When i transfer it to the pc - you can easily see how low quality it looks.

Holy fucking bullshit, batman

Either stop haxxing and wasting our time trolligan, or get that body/lens fixed or changed, something's fucked up there, and it's possibly more than the lens.

Notice how you no longer have red and blue highlighting everything out of focus?

The second picture is fine-- the first looks shitty because your cheap tele is spraying light like a broken water fountain. Don't use it.

Thanks

Because i lost the orginial usb cable to came with the camera - And im using a spare usb

I hope it's OK and causes no problems.

Any usb is fine right? - As long as you can transfer from the cam to the pc then nothing will get damaged eh?

Ok - So i need a tele lens to take pics from a far distance - Any recommendations.

Or a new lens + tele lens would do - I got plenty of $$$$ to spend.

The 18-200 VR would be a good choice. So would a 70-200 f/2.8, but you may have to look used.

use a tripod, higher f/stop, a lower iso, and a longer shutter speed. preferably a wire remote.

the tripod will reduce the camera shake and blurryness, the higher f/stop will give you a wider depth of feild and increase detail from foreground to backround, the lower iso will give you less film grain/noiseness, the longer shutter speed will compensate for the higher f/stop letting in less light, and the wire remote will reduce the initial camera shake caused by pressing the button.

also, buy a photo book.

Night portrait mode?!
That's not "shutter lag", that's a long shutter speed because that's what night portrait mode does. It's an slr, there is no "shutter lag".
Put the damn thing in Program, at least. Then it won't do anything you aren't aware of.
