Don't think of the models as humans - think of them as shapes you have to bring out. The point is to be decorative, not sexy. Sexiness is bound to fail.

Seconded. I feel that the female model is more alluring because of their curves and how light can play off of them. You can position their bodies to be akimbo but their bodies are still smooth. In this sense, you can get a little of both, angles and curves at the same time.

Also, exploring a peculiar angle or even awkward pose can be fresh to the viewer. The human body is capable of almost countless motions and sometimes we need to be reminded of this.
