HOwdy /p/

I like slr's and all but I have to admit that lugging one around town and sticking a big piece of machine up to my face and at other people's makes me feel like a real fagblanket. So, I was wondering what you guys thought about point and shoots. 35mm point and shoots that is.

Discussing techniques for slr's about town is good too.

you look far more faggoty with a point-and-shoot.
point-and-shoots make you look like some prick tourist who only breaks out his camera for vacations and asks strangers to take pictures of him and his dad standing in front of the ifle tower.

I sometimes just go around with a "light" kit, just the camera, a lens, and flash. It's interesting to shoot with severe limitations sometimes.

But normally, I lug around the camera, several lenses, and flash, plus a film backup. I leave the computer at home...

cam and lens maybe a flash is all i need

In all seriousness, I take my nikon w/ 17-50 and a 4gb card. If I know I'm shooting indoors I bring the flash, but thats it. When I goto the zoo, I bring the 55-200, but neither of those tripods are worth owning, they stay under the bed.

nikon d80 with 18-200 VR and a flash, that lense does for most situations. sometimes i will take a tiny 50mm also.
>> Butterfy !xlgRMYva6s
my 11-18 is practically glued onto my A100, ocasionally i use the 50/1.7 when I know im going to need fast glass or some actual reach.

Id be more worried of my camera getting stolen than people thing im weird (because they already think im weird, they're right) round here so i dont tend to go out shooting a lot.

whats fast glass
>> Anonymous
>>229943
glass that is fast
>> Butterfy !xlgRMYva6s
>>229943

Glass (ie lenses) that have a small (ie large) maximum aperture. So my 11-18 is 3.5-5.6, which gets it left at 5.6 for the most part is very slow compared to my 50/1.7, which is normally at 2.8

anyway, back to wikipedia with you.

"fast glass" is a lens with a large aperture. they call it fast because with a larger aperture (which lets in more light) you can shoot with a faster shutter speed.

I just walk around with my manual rangefinder and couple rolls of film, you guys suck balls.
>> Anonymous

This man knows how to roll.'

One small body, one main small prime lens, between 28-50mm equivalent, to taste. Possibly a medium tele and one notch down/up from your main lens, e.g. Cartier-Bresson's 50 with a rarely used 90 and almost never used 35 in a small shoulder bag.

I take whatever I specifically need for wherever I am going. If I have no idea what I am going to meet where I am going, then I usually just put on my 18-70 and hope for the best.

Sometimes, though, when I need more options, I will carry a tripod, 18-70, 70-300, and a polarizing filter.
>> Anonymous
I don't really have a lot of shit to carry around, but I ALWAYS try to take my D-Lux 3 in my pocket, at least.

My SLR fits into a little Tamrac bag, and doesn't look too faggoty when I'm carrying it.
>> Mutt !!mIF4ZkWn+B/

I usually carry my stuff in an Adidas messenger bag because I'd rather not look like a creepy stalker. In it there's usually my D40 with the 50mm f/1.4, the kit lens, charger, 2x2GB SD cards, a flash, and a tabletop tripod.
The compact size of the D40 makes me look more like a hipster faggot than a stalker and this town is crawling with hipster faggots so yeah. If I ever get too old to look like a hipster faggot I'll go to a local uni and buy a 'photography club' shirt or something.
