short question on SL-flash (sony..) Anonymous
hey

my sony cam has an "SL"-flash option.
i just dunno what it changes, here's the description given in the manual (see pic)

so, whats the sl flash for?
i mean, wouldn't the pic be overexposed in the flash-area if the shutter speed is slow but the flash is on?
>> Anonymous
not if you use it correctly
>> Anonymous
>Slow Sync Flash mode, also known as Night Scene mode, is used to capture a dimly lit background at night. When switching to this mode, a camera uses a slow shutter speed in combination with the flash.
tl;dr shots like pic

Shutter speed and flash have no effect on one another aside from flash sync speed. Assuming there is no other light source besides the flash, a photo shot at 1/200th will have the same exposure as one shot at 30 seconds or an hour for that matter.

It exposes the background as well as the foreground. Normally, a flash makes the background (anything the flash light doesn't reach) too dark especially if outdoors.

so on the buttomline:
use this!

nikon slow flash

i used to use a similar setting all the time on my old fuji. to be honest, i think it was the only mode i ever used; illuminates everything as if by natural light, but doesn't actually capture the overwhelming built in flash.
