Telescope Photography? Anonymous
Alright /p/, help me out here. I'm looking to buy a telescope and some way to take photos with it at the same time. Is it better to get a telescope to hook-up to my laptop and take pictures with some sort of software, or buy a camera to fit with my telescope? Any help with a telescope suggestion would be appreciated too.

you should get a zoom lens, about 300mm should do.

Telescopes which hook up to the PC usually produce really crappy low-resolution images.
To take pictures of nebulas and so on, you need a long telephoto lens, probably with teleconverters (500mm of equivalent focal distance or more), a camera that doesn't suck too much at long exposures (CMOS sensors are better than CCD), and a tripod with astrophotographic mount which rotates the camera during long exposures so the stars don't get smeared.
