Nice colors and composition. Lovely! Only suggestion I can make is maybe to move everything down a little, so the length between the top bolt and bottom bolt isn't uneven, but aside from that cool.

Glad to see, too, that someome else is interested in this sort of photography as well. I haven't found a whole lot of other people that enjoy shooting the rust and steel, etcetc.

I shot this on a Canon Rebel 2000. It's analog 35mm, that's why there is no EXIF data on the technical info.

I composed it like that so that the top bolt would align with the bottom bolt's shadow.

Thanx for the input, /p/.

I too love this pic - and rust & metal in general (just not on my car!). Still trying to find some interesting metalwork to photograph around where I live - all I've found so far is interesting wood..

What state are you in? Earlier this year I found a "antique steam and gas engine museum" i.e. a place that's called a museum, but it's just a place for a bunch of guys to get together and work on old machines. There are harvesters, thresters, steam engines, pistons, parts, cranes, drilling machines, all SORTS of cool stuff that are just sitting there, waiting to be photographed. Pretty much anyone can get it (you can technically sneak in about paying memberships, no one pay attention, but we went in and bought a year long membership anyway). It's absolutely wonderful. I stumbled across it on accident. Dumping grounds, old abandoned farms and wheat fields are great for photographing, too.

I'm in the 51st state - England ;) Yep, I know, many years of history over here so I should be spoilt!

I'm not far from the Thames (at least the out-of-London part), and there is a large walking area which has some lovely run-down old barges & boats moored along it's length. I just have to work out how you get to the other side of the river without swimming so I can get close enough :)

Try calling the guy/gal who's in charge of the docks, then say you'd like to do some photography there, if possible. See what happens (if it's all different people, this really doesn't apply).

Ah hell, you should have more things to photograph than I ever will! Lucky man, i need to move more east.
