So /p/
I was wondering how many of you are in the business, or are currently looking at getting into the business ( Schooling, internships etc.)
Those of you that are already in the business, what is your position? What types of photography do you do? Is it fulfilling?
Those of you that aren't working yet, but are on the way, why did you choose this?
Just curious to see what you guys say. As you can imagine, I'm the latter of the people. Going to school, trying to figure out if this is right. Looking at photojournalism currently.
Thanks

I want to get into photojournalism in some capacity. I'd love to shoot for National Geographic some day, assuming I can attain that level of quality.

I shoot because it makes me happy.

I have been heavily into filming and stuff like that until this year, i sent in all my applications for filming, but then about 3 months ago i took a couple pictures and found my love for photography. I declined all the schools i got accepted into for film, and decided to wait a year, more high schooling for photography, thn reapply for photography, one of the best decisions i think ive made

as for future, i dont know what i would like to do after studies..

a dream job would b working on a cruise boat, taking pictures of familys eating, doing the daily events, and picture of the familys at sunsets... pays good and i get to see the world

at the moment im only 18

I am in the same boat as the Anonymous above me. I am self taught, and I shoot because it makes me happy. I love the whole creative process of setting up a shoot, a concept, a location. Originally, my dream was to make it to national geographic and do wildlife & nature shoots, because that is where my heart was at the time.

Then a coworker got me into mode/fashion/editorial/fetish/commercial photography and now i'm just not sure where I want to go yet.

Most of my shoots right now are with a model, and though i am booked through the end of May already, it's all trade for print/cd. I've been told i'm good enough to charge, but i'm hesitant because i'm not sure if it will ruin the fun, carefree shoots i have with all the models right now.

I am part of a business group and do paid gigs for them as a self employed photographer (pictures for business cards, websites and such) but it isn't nearly as much fun as the on-location shoots I have going every single weekend.

So, in other words, i've absolutely no idea why. I just love it, it makes me happy and is a great stress reliever :-)

I guess the best possible scenario for me right now is to do photography for a living. Not necessarily for a huge magazine, or disneyland (ew) but to be able to make a contribution to a local community through it, be it covering sporting, community or news events.

Thanks guys, I guess I should tell you a little about myself.
I'm 19, going to a local Junior College. I originally was going to school for Pre-Med, as that's where my schooling was originally. Did the whole Bio thing, was interested in Bio-Tech for a while, but realized that wasn't where my heart was. So, took a photo class for fun, and realized that I really enjoyed it. Along with a couple of English classes, everything sort of fit. As far as what I'd like to do, I mentioned Photojournalism before, but would also like to do some more experimental stuff. Right now my passion is night, and very low light shots.
