You are either using it at full power or your batteries are fucked or both.

I hear rechargeables are better for recycle times.

fuck that

i wired up a 9volt battery where the 4 AA's go in my 580. It fucking saves an assload of weight and recharges so much faster for my XTi.

Yeah, and toast the internals by feeding it with six times the proper voltage.

It's because you use a Canon olololol

Hmm...just had a look.

The AAs are in series. (Two series maximum, so probably just all in series but I don't know.) That means that the flash uses either 6V or 3V.

Even if it's only 3V, that is not six times the rated voltage.

my 430EX has pretty decent recycling times since I purchased official Canon rechargeable batteries.
I suggest you do the same, OP

Don't use it at full power. Also get a couple of these batteries. They charge my Metz 48AF-1 at full power in 2 seconds. Also, Metz flashes are the best.

Aren't these battery packs really expensive though?

Stop using the Kit 18-55mm lens?
Aperture and ISO determine how much light from the flash gets to the sensor. If your shooting at ISO 200 and F5.6 all the time your flash will be getting close to 1/1.

that or you are too far away, get closer to the band
