EF 35 f/1.4L or EF 24 f/1.4L Anonymous
Alright, I have saved up to buy my first L prime. I'll be using it for general shooting in NYC; I'll be living there for a month.

I am planning on only bringing one lens, and preferably not a zoom (I prefer prime quality/sharpness). Which lens (the 24 or 35) would be better suited for city shots, streets and the occasional portraits? I am leaning towards the 35 as it will be equivalent to 56 mm on my camera, which is a little more than a normal lens. However, the 35 (around 38 mm on the camera) also seems like a good wider-angle choice.

HALP /p/

Sorry about the gear thread, sage to hell when done.

24, obviously.

whichever has more stars on amazon..

honestly, why even spend that much on a lens when you're not even sure what you're looking for?

I would probably get the 35, it ultimately depends on if you want normal or wide, though.

Go for the 24, you'll want a wider lens for shooting NYC buildings

Will he want a 24 for shooting bums, however?

why just not get the 24-70/2.8L? it's the same price as the 24 and freakishly sharp..

OP, 35 is a pretty long normal. 24 is a very slight wide. One compresses space and the other expands it. We don't know which you want your lens to do. It's a matter of your personal style and aesthetic taste.

Some people just don't like working with zooms.

Seconded.

First off what camera will you be using it on?
And i agree with>>213576, an L zoom is about as sharp or as good as a L prime, and since you will be using this for street shots in NYC you will be missing alot of oppritunities with just a prime.

Suppress your artfag impulses and get the zoom - it'll be fast enough for anything outdoors. Get a nifty-fifty for those oh-so-important sub 2.8 moments.

Buying a prime L for the constraints of a weekend trip is dumb. Rent one instead and see how you like it. Hell, rent both.

The 24-70 won't do you wrong, I assure you.
