4sirius.
was very happy with the a100 and its sensor "shake like a bitch till the dust comes off" that the D3 lacks.

Canon Rebel XT/350D. Was highly reccomended by a photog. friend of mine, i always fiddled around with them a bit in TAFE/college, and it suits my style. Good upgrade from p&s, if you're starting out. (like me)
I hear good things about the Nikon d40 though.

Sorry no camera company has come up with a way to idiot proof delicate optical instruments.

Canon 20D. Cheapest thing I could find with a good continuous FPS.

Minolta all the way.

Canon, because I like their lens lineup. And because, at the time, the Rebel XT was the best sub-$1000 prosumer camera.

D40 owners arent the only people who want nikon to update their primes to AF-S. i own a D300 and i want them because its faster, quieter, and generally more accurate.

u probably should own a d40

You're going to be waiting a very very very long time.

N80 if you can afford it (or have older lenses that need the AF motor), otherwise the D60 is a great camera.

To be fair though, i've never heard a cannon owner unhappy about their camera, so you'll probably be good with whatever you buy

Canon

30D and an Elan 7

I learned to shot on a Canon A-1 and Ae-1

I liked how they categorized their lenses and cameras was one of the bigger reasons. At the time and now I was under the impression of similar quality between Nikon and Canon.
