Alright /p/ this is a serious question. I used to constantly use my old point and shoot camera I bought (picture related) to take photos, it was good enough but I wanted a slr to get back to being able to use multiple lenses. I bought a Canon 20d thinking it would be a vast improvement in quality as well as allow me to use my huge collection of lenses with various mounts (via converters). Well, I could use the lenses, but the quality of the 20d vs the sony-v3 is insanely different. How is it an old sony point and shoot took better, crisp, low distortion/noise shots yet my 20d takes shots full of fucking noise. Do you guys think my senson is just craping out? Or does the 20d just really suck for quality as far as noise goes. (it's also the worst low light camera I have ever owned for long exposure shots)

In before someone calls shit becuase I spelled a word wrong.

I should mention, I shoot at ISO100 whenever I possibly can on the 20d so that shouldn't be the issue.

i have a sony hi-fi and dvd player. the dvd player plays really clean images im really happy with it, and the hifi is quite noisy as well

Based on DPReview's tests, looks like the 20D's noise at ISO800 is about the same as the DSC-V3's at ISO100. So yeah, assuming this thread isn't a flat-out troll attempt, you're either doing something wrong or there's something horribly wrong with your 20D.

God damn it, I always wondered why my 20d couldn't out preform my v3. Time for a new camera. Being everything I have ever tried has resulted in an absolute crap quality photo as far as noise goes with the 20d, I have to assume it is b0rked. Now, It doesn't help that, midway through it's use, I had taken the 20d to a beach and changed lenses on the beach (what was I thinking?), but the noise was always an issue with it.

That's what I get for buying a used camera off ebay.

That should not cause a problem unless you dropped it in the ocean in the process.

At any beach, if there is wind there is dust (sand) in the air, you change the lens, you get dust inside the camera. It's something I was taught not to do with regular film slr's, so why the hell I did it with my dslr. The sensor needs cleaning desperately because of that, but it doesn't really matter anyways when the camera couldn't produce a somewhat noise free photo in daylight.

Posted some ISO100 shots from the 20D.

If you think your noise is bad, you should see my Olympus E-500 at 1600.

Shit looks like it's snowing. Now THAT'S the worst low-light camera... otherwise it's totally solid.
