There are many. How wide?

I haven't looked into them very much at all, so I don't know widths and such. What kind of widths are there? I want something with a pretty noticeable effect on the picture.

there's ultra wides like the sigma 10-20, nikon 12-24 or tokina 11-16

and wides like a 18-55 kit lens

if you're using a 18-55, and keep thinking MUST GO WIDEEEERRR

then you need a ultra wide

I'd probably be happier with an ultra wide then. Which of those would be best for use with a Nikon d40? The Nikon 12-24?
>> Anonymous
if you really want a nikon, yeah

but it's not stellar for image quality

many prefer the sigma 10-20

because it's the same, it's wider, and half the price

Thank you for the sharing of knowledge, I'll look into it. How about fisheye lenses, anything to share about those?

Get the Tokina 12-24 f4, its has great optics and build quality, not to mention constant f4
