Even within Nikon's currently shipping lineup, there are lenses that won't autofocus with some bodies but will with others. With Canon, there's the EF vs. EF-S issue, but there's actually an advantage to EF-S lenses that makes it worth losing the ability to use them on larger-than-APS-C bodies.
But I don't think Blackadder was really talking about Nikon there. I think he more meant that he went with Canon as opposed to Sony/Four-Thirds/Pentax/Etc rather than Canon as opposed to Nikon. The brands other than Canon and Nikon have a pretty good lens lineup for average photographers' needs, but they lack the more specialized niche lenses like the tilt/shifts, superteles, ultrawides, macros, etc.
