Sup /p/
My first go at doing a planet. The vignetting towards the end of the original image kinda spoils it but hey thats pinholes for you.
Thanks to those that explained how to do this on here last week.

isn't the point to have it seamless as possible?

>>293800er yes, but as i said earlier my camera drops off towards the edges and Ive already cropped off loads.
I just wanted to try out the technique and express gratitude for those who posted the how toos.

I missed the howtos on this; googled a few guides and it seems pretty simple. But some of the best ones I'm not sure how they'd get out of the techniques I've found.
How come there's no distortion of the ground here, and the bridge all matches up?

Google planet photos or something. This is one i found, http://www.photojojo.com/content/tutorials/create-your-own-panorama-planets/,
but the centre's all fucked up; i dunno how they dealt with that in >294009

as i explained last week...

1) take a 360 degree panoramic (over lap approx 1/3 of each image and get enough sky in aswell
2) stitch together with what ever program you like.. i prefer PTGui
3) open panoramic in photoshop and go image> image size and turn off the proportions option.. and set the lenght the same as the height (so its a square)
4) flip image horizontally (so its upside down)
5) go filter> distort> polar coordinates.. and then you have a planet

hope this helps every one ^_^

pic related: is one that i did a while ago

*also PTGui has a "little planet" setting but it turns out more like an extreme fish eye...

Now I see. Too bad I don't have any 360 panoramas right now. Tested it on this 180 panorama I had lying around. I'll do a 360 of the same spot next day of class. Hopefully the sky would be better.

A 360 degree panorama isn't strictly necessary. You just need a panorama with edges that can be joined together.

Really sorry, i'm obviously retarded, but i'm still not getting it. Pic attached was done with a 360 panorama, but the centre's all screwed up. I honestly don't see how you can avoid that; for a stationary, rotated camera, there's no way of capturing the ground directly below it. And yet...>>294410

>>294320
> 1) take a 360 degree panoramic (over lap approx 1/3 of each image...)
Secret seems to be the crucial step, how do you do this without moving the camera in some weird circle?

Just rotate around the nodal point or approximately around the nodal point. And don't take one continuous row of photos. Do it somewhat spherically. The panorama I did with this>>294329is actually a 3x3. Take some ground and some sky. You can easily crop it before flipping it upside down if you took too much of either. Too much ground and it ends up empty like this>>294412.
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
>>294730
Surely if you take 'em spherically you still have to crop them into a rectangular panorama, and you'd just end up cropping extra bits off? Well, either way, I don't see how that'd help - whether spherical or otherwise, the ground beneath the camera won't be covered?

Is>>294410still around? The original pics from one like this should make it clear.

true but it does warp the outer details more if its isnt 360 (from my experiences anyways)

better to crop extra bits off in post than to lack needed bits when you arrive home.

And your illustration is for using awfully wide lenses. I'm stuck on a 28-80 range so the widest I can go is normal. I also don't use tripods.

the more ground you capture the less distorted it will be thats why the tip is fucked looking its doing the same thing the ground would be doing.

swivel your camera around a tripod its really not that hard.

this is the pano i used for the planet up there

oh i just remembered how to do it.

you have to have a plug in for photoshop called panotools it took me a while to find it, i dont know the link anymore.

make your 360 pano (stitch and all that shit)
take it in to ps, flip it vertically unless you want>>294750

not quite sure if panotools works in photoshop 7

Sweet thanks for all of the tips, I didn't have a 360 pano so I used what I had to get the idea.

I tried to do one of my apartment, had to use 2second exposures. Turned out horribly.

yeh i shoot manual.. i look at the lighest part and the darkest part (into and way from the main light source) and i find an average shutter speed for the light and i set the lens to manual and put it on infinate focus (if your lens has it) and on a fairly small apature (like f/10 + etc)
