Sup /p/,

Christmas is coming and my film SLR died, so it's digital time. I found a new D80 with it's kit lens for about $550 from a local credible source. This deal seems unbelievable. Is there anything better I can get for under $600?

Also, is dust reduction overrated and will it matter that the D80 doesn't have it?

My advice is usually to buy a body and a lens that's not the kit lens. Like a fast prime of some sort.

If you're a basement goblin like 98% of /p/ then by all means get that awesome prime lens to shoot wide open when it's dark.

But for any social stiatuations, you would need a kit lens to bring you to respectable wide to get more than just someone's face in the frame. And no, don't give me that "work for your photo" shit. Trying to frame a group shot with 75mm equivalent isn't working for your photo, it's being retarded.

dust reduction isnt a huge deal as long as you take care of your camera, use body caps, change lenses reasonably quickly, ect.

get the d80

not OP, but I'm getting a D80 body in the near future. What lenses should i look into for general use, architecture, and portraits [in that order]?

Thanks

nikon's kit lens is fucking awesome at 18mm, for the record. slow as shit, but who cares? i highly recommend it.
