Hello /p/!

What are you guys' favorite film brands (example: Provia 100F, Agfa Precisa, etc)? Not 'what is the best for so and so', but what do you just love shooting with, and why?

I haven't tried much variety yet, so I can't have a favorite for now; looking forward to trying more though!

ilford f4 :)
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
Fuji Velvia, because FUCK YEAH COLORS.

Ilford Delta 3200 because FUCK YEAH GRAIN and also shooting by candlelight.
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m
You're on the right track already. If you have the extra money, try velvia 50. Bring a change of pants when you pick up your pics tho, you'll shit yourself if you've never seen good prints from it before. Lots of people like Ilford XP2 and HP5+, but I'm a Kodak guy and I luvs me some tmax and if I'm in the mood for a little more grain, tri-x. If you're tied to C-41, try some portra that ends in "VC".

Fujicolor lol, unfortunately for me, I have yet to find a good photo lab that can develop film well and I'm only limited by those small kiosk like things in department stores. In fact, I can't even buy good film.

Anyone in Metro Manila care to help me out?
>> Even_Steven !!rUmVORA7JiP
Fuji Velvia - Makes my eyes bleed
Kodak T-Max 400 - Great B&W film
Kodak Ektachrome - FUCK YEAH FILM USED IN SPACE
>> parshimers !y2fz.HIyUQ
tri-x fuuck yeah
tmax 400 is good too
>> Anonymous
I loves my HP5 and T-Max.

Uh, quick question:

If I'm going to get stuck on a camera with a fixed speed of 1/200s, even though I have an aperture of around F1.0 at my disposal (able to stop down to F22 kinda) what film speed should I grab to get the most out of it?

Iso 50 film maybe?

1/200th fixed shutter, but f/1.0 to f/22 available?

What the hell camera is that? Broken Leica with a Noctilux?
>> Anonymous
>>169524
It's got to be either that, a broken Canon with a 50/1 L, or some amazing weird camera fixed up in Europe pre-1970 or so when people were still fucking around with weird designs.
>> Anonymous
>>169524
Long story not yet concluded, ac, dont want to disappoint!
Certainly not leica level though, that's for sure, not a Canon either.

What film though, really? : P

>>169531
What EVs will you be shooting, and what aperture range will you use the most?

Once you answer those, the answer is as far away as your nearest exposure table.

>>169535
Sunny to night conditions, seriously. : P
I'd like to be able to use it at F1 though, but I have a strong feeling that it's going to suck massive cocks at that aperture. Chromatic aberrations, field curvature, low edge resolution, etc.

I guess I'll just figure it out when the time comes, and if the lens is actually a 1.0. It'll probably be around 1.2.

I'd like to try doing street photography at night with the thing though. Not sure Iso 50's right if we're talking about 1/200 at F1.

I'll post again about this matter, if all turns out well.

Just pick a film available in a bunch of different speeds and run with it. E.g. Ektachrome 64, 100, 200, etc. Pull as needed with the 64.

>>169548
A fair suggestion, I'll keep it in mind.

Tri-X fuck yeah
portra 160c is growing on me
>> Anonymous
I haven't tried many, but in medium format i like the color reproduction of pro160c by fuji, and portra 400nc, i want to get some velvia 50 soon, buts its so exspensive

I get the feeling that finding Tri-X, T-max, Portra, pro160c and Portra, let alone Velvia 50, are going to be a pain in the ass to find over here.

Anybody have thoughts on Kodak Pro... prosomething, some 'fancy' negative film? I cant remember the exact name. Pro Image I think? Im pretty sure ProImage is something else though..

Kodak 400 CN

Oh, real BW? Might make it even harder to find a lab. Then again, I haven't looked hard enough. Most of this stuff implies a 30min drive to get each thing though. It wouldnt be a surprise if this can be found around the same area.

>>169586
Just order it through the Internet. Whereever you are, there's obviously Internet access and there's probably mail, too. Unless you're posting from the countryside of Somalia with a satellite modem.

Import/export is a bitch in my country; too fucking slow, costly, and even then, I might lose my parcel.

My city's pretty damn big, there -must- be options... just havent looked into shooting/developing black and white film out of the toy camera I was using.

I'll be more willing to try those films if/once I get this 'new' one.
>> Anonymous
>>169615

This B&W film can be developed in any color-lab, which is convenient :)
>> Anonymous
>>169626
Nod. I'll consider it. Did hear about it from the clerk. Goes for 7 bucks a roll though... Might be a better option though...
...
Oh shit, T-max. Fuck. I remember now, it's sold across the street from my school! D:

>>169634
Try it out, but I for one don't like it 99% of the time. It looks really flat, especially skin tones.

I've seen people use it well and/or do something to it in development that ameliorates the effect some, but usually it looks flat. And flat isn't exactly the right word, but it's the closet I've ever thought of.

Some people love it, though, so shoot a test roll.

>>169640
Uhh high contrast with low dynamic range perhaps?
>> Anonymous
I usually shoot bw, but I use color for snapshots. (There's always an olympus XA in my pocket) Ilford HP5+ or Fuji Neopan 1600, and Kodak Gold 200 or Fuji Superia 400/800 for color snaps. I recently did a large shoot in color, so I thought I'd use a better film, Portra 160NC. Dissapointed heavily.
>> Teus !QbSstcPD6U
Kodak plus-x, Tri-x, P32OO. Ilford Delta seems to be nice, should try more of it

Fuji Velvia, Provia, Astia. Kodak portra 160VC, should try Fuji 160C, Kodak ultra color and 100GX
>> Anonymous
HP5+ and Tri-X 400 best films ever made.

For color i mostly use elitechrome 100 because its cheap. Might be shitty slide film, i wouldnt know since its only one ive ever shot with. However i cannot afford to shoot velvia or other expensive films so it will have to do.
>> Anonymous
I mainly shoot with Ilford XP2, simply because of the convenience of shooting black and white, but you can develop it in C41
But, I finally broke down and bought all the stuff for developing at home, so I'll probably buy a bulk loader and some Ilford Delta 400 speed soon.
I also found 12 rolls of T-Max 3200, which I'm enjoying a lot, mainly due to the grain and I'll probably get some more of that soon.

>>169634
Look into XP2... It's priced the similarly, but you get an actual black and white negative, not a brown one.
>> Warren !WSxruxpIJs
B&W I shoot mostly Tri-X 400. I love Tri-X Pan 320 more, but it doesn't exist in 35mm and I don't like not being able to shoot the same emulsion across different formats. When I run out, though, I'm switching over to Neopan 400. I've run tests with some and the results I've gotten in HC-110 Dilution G are superb.

For color, it's all about Fuji NPS.
>> Anonymous
>For color, it's all about Fuji NPS.

Is that slide or negative?
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>170159
Negative. It's kinda like Kodak's Portra - the pro negative line, with a ton of different versions for every conceivable need. The films are all called NPx, where x, is a bunch of different things I can't remember.

>>169835
Your mistake was not shooting VC.

As for the topic, I really liked the one roll of Fuji Fortia I shot, but I can't really say it's my favorite since I've only shot the one.

What's VC? Not familiar with the acronym.

Fujifilm Superia 400
Kodak Gold 400 - Both superia and gold are castly under estimated and sunbed by elitists, just gotta know how to drive the film.
Kodak Ektachrome E100VS - by far my fave chrome, beautiful colours and the best for cross processing.
FujiChrome Provia 400X - contrast like a high speed Velvia 100F, something no other film can do at that speed.
>> thefamilyman !!rTVzm2BgTOa
>>170231
Vastly, not castly.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>170216
I'll try to rescan, I guess. My shitty flatbed refuses to cooperate. Also I think I fucked up the focus and exposure, and I shot the roll through a shitty Chinese 6x6 folder so even a good scan might be pretty ugly.

It makes the sky so pretty though :3
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.

Argh here are some old crappy scans that kinda show the difference. Here's a scene shot with Fuji Superia 100.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.

And shot at around the same time of day, Fuji Fortia. I swear the slide looks a zillion times better in real life - my scanner just sucks.

Agfa Vista 100/200. 400 is a bit grainy.
