Hey /p/

How much should I pay for a used one of these? Basically I want/need a full-frame body to use my M42 lenses on because I'm sick of the crop factor on my current 4 year old DSLR. (I also want to have a split-prism focusing screen). I can't go Nikon because they were morons and the F-mount can't take M42 lenses. I can't go with a 5D because Canon was a moron there and made the mirror too large, so it hits the back of wide-angle M42 lenses.

If at PK canon introduces a new 5D without the mirror-banging issue, I'll get that. Otherwise it's a pic related for me. How much should I be prepared to pay for one in good condition?

About $4,500. Google it.
>> Eagle
why not use the nikon adapter with the built in element?

There's a rumor of a new 5D being announced at some point this year. Maybe wait for that? It'll probably cost a fuck lot amount of money though.

See where I said
> If at PK canon introduces a new 5D without the mirror-banging issue, I'll get that

Yeah, if there's a new 5D that would work for me then I'd get it. But there is shit-all reason to get a FF body if I can't use my wide angle lenses, since that's why I would get it in the first place. My 35/2 is begging to have the outer part of its image circle used...

With that said, heres the supposed specs of this new 5D (6D?)

"just got this link passed to me for the 5DMKII possible specs. Totally a rumor, grabbed it off of Flickr...

* 21.1 MP 1.0x
* DIGIC IV
* ISO 100-6400 L:50 & H:12800
* 5 FPS
* 3.2" High Resolution Screen (LCD)
* 19 point AF
* HDMI Out
* Liveview
* HD Movie Mode
* Viewfinder: 100% Coverage
* Full weather sealing
* EF Lenses only"

Assuming they keep the price at all competitive with the D700 and have kept the high-iso noise levels comparable (on an image basis, not on a per-pixel basis of course) it should be a winner.

Hopefully, a $3000 pricetag for the body actually wont be that (when you consider what your getting). Here's the link to where the specs came from...

http://gizmodo.com/5043240/unconfirmed-more-canon-eos-5d-mark-ii-specs-leak-lookin-good

I'm personally going for a 40D, the 5D right now is a bit out of my price range.

I'm pretty sick of 5dii rumored specs! It's not coming out this year. Enjoy waiting until it "might" come out next summer.
>> Anonymous
>>246941

Same dude who posted the rumor here. I pretty much agree with it. The best cast scenario is it being announced this year and be released (as you stated) the summer of next year.

My personal interest in this is having the 5D price go down considerably so I can eat one up.

Enjoy your shitty Nikon.
>> $19.99 !OSYhGye6hY

Just buy one now! It'll probably go down maybe $200 at the most (next year). Save up a bit and spend that extra $200 now, it's worth it.

But these specs are all made up or ripped off of other cameras that are already out. Here's how *all* "rumored" camera specs come to be:

>* 21.1 MP 1.0x
from the 1Ds MkII, hurrrr, also liek 21mp is pretty good but really it should be like 30 to print more then 5 inches on a side cause more is better, rite

>* DIGIC IV
>* ISO 100-6400 L:50 & H:12800
Well shit the 50D has those so I guess Id better stick them in my list fo sho

>* 5 FPS
like totally, its a good number but not too fast so they wont think its all made up im so good

>* 3.2" High Resolution Screen (LCD)
i think nikon has this and maybe the 50d too

>* 19 point AF
>* HDMI Out
>* Liveview
yea i just grabbed this shit from anoter guys rumor list

>* HD Movie Mode
like nikon has this, so canon gotta have made it too, totally, plus this will make everyone go OMG SHIT CANON GOTS YA ASS NIKON HAH

>* Viewfinder: 100% Coverage
>* Full weather sealing
lol, professional feature

>EF Lenses only"
cause EF-S is only for teh gay noobs amirite

I would say that 18-21MP, ISO 12800, larger screen, Digic IV and Live View are the only sure things there. The 5fps is a possibility because of the new processors. Everything else is speculation, except for the movie mode which is completely retarded bullshit.
>> Anonymous
>>246964
semi-agreed.. semi canonfag here btw

>* 21.1 MP 1.0x
Ive seen rumours of over 30mp.. Most people just seem to take the 50Ds 15mp and multiply it due to larger sensor. This is absolutely anyones guess and noone knows.

>* DIGIC IV
>* ISO 100-6400 L:50 & H:12800
digic iv is pretty much a sure thing. would be stupid to give it a digic iii or something completely different after just using the digic iv.
100-6400 is pretty much a easy guess. same goes for expandable to 12800 or even possibly but unlikely 25600. 50 is quite likely but people are just guessing.

>* 5 FPS
guesses again. id like higher, but wouldnt be surprised if it was even lower.

>* 19 point AF
>* HDMI Out
>* Liveview
19 points a guess but not too shabby. canons letting itself down compared to nikon if true..
hdmi out and liveview is just a given.

>* HD Movie Mode
if the 90D hadnt just been announced with this it wouldnt be in anyones rumour list. if this gets announced anytime soon this wont be here, and does not fucken need to be.

>* Viewfinder: 100% Coverage
>* Full weather sealing
well duh

>EF Lenses only"
again an obvious guess. what 1d/5d accepts ef-s..
>> Anonymous
Fuck that, By the Nikon D3 and stop being a pussy.

Yeaaaah you don't know shit and can't read. The F-mount is physically incompatible with the M42 mount, which is what all of my lenses use. I'm not going to switch systems if it means that I will have to buy entirely new lenses and can't even adapt my favorite old manual-focus primes.

The EF mount is excellent for adapters, because it's got a short flange-focal distance and a huge mouth. Just about anything except rangefinder lenses can be mounted on an EOS camera.

The D3 is a very nice camera, and if the F-mount weren't retarded, I would probably be getting a D700 right now. But that's not the case.

>EF Lenses only"
>again an obvious guess. what 1d/5d accepts ef-s..

I think it would be great if they could make the new 5D take EF-S lenses. Nikon managed to deal with the back-focus problem on a full-frame DSLR with the D3 and D700, so there's no reason that Canon would be unable to. The optical formulas should be roughly the same between Canon and Nikon lenses.

A 5D replacement that takes both EF and EF-S lenses would pretty much guarantee that short-back-focus M42s would fit on it as well, since the interference there is on the order of millimeters while an EF-S lens sticks back into the body quite far.

Not really, you miss out on manual Canon, Minolta, and Konica glass (plus several other exotic mounts). Not to mention that there's no in-body IS and you need chinese mod-chips for focus confirmation because Canon is being gay.
The best mount for adapters would be 4/3, but the 2X crop kinda spoils it.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>247242
why not, set the sensor to auto crop 1.5x and you get to use _ALL_ avalible lenses.
>> Anonymous
>>247268

Exactly...if Canon can do it, there's no reason NOT to make their new FF cameras compatible with EF-S. You get to use some small, lightweight and inexpensive lenses (and a few of the EF-S lenses are also very highly regarded) at the cost of reduced resolution. And if the new 5D is 21MP, then a 1.6x crop would still be a good 13 megapixels -- higher than any crop camera other than the 50D. A very good thing overall. If Nikon can do it, why shouldn't Canon be able to?

You could get the new 18-200 lens and have a zoom range longer than the 28-300 EF with similar resolution as the 50D, but weighing about 1/3 as much and much more compact when collapsed, not to mention significantly cheaper.
>> hekrob !NpuBFNCrvo
>>247276
>>247268
the S in EF-S stands for "short back focus" which means the lens extends farther into the mirror box, hence it would be inherently incompatible with a full-frame camera because the mirror would hit the lens
>> Anonymous
>>247280

Nikon DX lenses do the same thing (it's a necessary part of making a very short lens, 10-20mm, that has an image circle large enough for a DSLR), but Nikon has managed to get those on their FX cameras. It's a problem, but not an unsolvable one. A more complex mirror movement might solve the problem just fine. I would be happy to have a top shooting speed slower than usual in exchange for all my old lenses working properly.

>if the new 5D is 21MP, then a 1.6x crop would still be a good 13 megapixels

it would be just 8 mp, learn2geometry

When no one was looking, 5D MkII stole 8 megapixels. He stole eight megapixels. That's as many as one 30D. and that's terrible.
>> Anonymous
>>247285
that's not calculated with geometry and I think you have the wrong answer
>> Einta !!MWv3ICYobCM
>>247318
You have to square the 1.6.
>> Einta !!MWv3ICYobCM
>>247322
To clarify:
1.6*1.6 = 2.56 = difference in area between 1X crop and 1.6X crop.

21MP/2.56 = 8.2 MP
