Anyone have a recommendation for a good starter camera? Primary usage will (hopefully) be low-light concert shooting, but if it performs well in normal light too that would be optimal. I don't know anything, really, about camera that use SLR other than that they're a lot more expensive and complicated than standard point and shoot ones.

I've done some research, and it seems that the standard for amateur photographers in this field is either a Canon XT or XTi. There's no way that I'm going to shell out $500 for just a camera body without any lenses at this stage, so anything less would be fantastic.

Help out a newfag! Have a shot of my puppy for your troubles.

Pretty much need an SLR at a minimum for what you want to do, so resign yourself to shelling out $500 for just the body. On the plus side, you can get a good fast lens (50/1.8) for under $100 more, so there's that.

Canon's a good choice for this since Nikon's 50/1.8 won't autofocus on their cheap cameras.

(There's also the option of getting a film SLR for much, much cheaper and loading it up with fast film, but then you have to deal with oodles and oodles of grain)

Steal band photos from other concerts and say you took them.

Seriously though, I hate fuckers like you who ruin concerts for us the band. I don't want a flash in my eyes. I don't want some fag who's just there to take pictures. Get the fuck out of my show.
