Actually I got that lens last week. Is it just me, or is the IS just.. not working right?
Compared to the 70-200mm IS f/4L its amazingly unfunctional. Not alot better than the standard 18-55 for indoor photography.

>>143115
Just you. I can shoot a sharp 1/13th with my 18-55 IS at the 55 end.
>> Anonymous
>>143148

i can shoot 0.6 sec at 200mm, owned
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>143151
But can you shoot handheld 1/13th at 55mm without IS using the standard 18-55?

The fact that the IS in the $1060 L lens beats the IS in the $170 consumer EF-S lens shouldn't be that much of a shock...
>> Anonymous
>>143152But can you shoot handheld 1/13th at 55mm without IS using the standard 18-55?

can YOU?

and that's a 2.8 not a 4.0
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
IS on L lenses is and will always be far superior to IS on non L lenses.
Even if you compare older L to new non L (like the 18-55)

Anyone who's used both will know this.
>> Anonymous
newest generation IS doesn't vibrate or make noise

anyone who's used both will know this

>>143152
If you can't shoot 55mm handheld, at 1/13s without IS, you've probably got Parkinson's.
>> Anonymous
>>143191
low shutter speeds seem hit and miss with me. Sometimes its good, others blurry.

I usually go with a shutter of at least the length of the lens i.e. 1/50 or 1/60 in the case of the 55mm end just so I know it will turn out.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
induring buttertroll

I can shoot 100mm at 1/8s and get sharp results, learn to hold your cameras!
>> Anonymous
>>143191

i can shoot 300mm at 30 sec exposure lulz or 500mm at 4 secs

doesn't mean it will come out well lulz

No you can't. I've not seen a sharp shot from you yet.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
>>143203
What exactly have you seen then? I should mention that thats at 100/8 and the lens couldnt make a decent sharp if its life depended on it.
>> Anonymous
>>143205
Honestly, stop being a faggot. Post the 100mm 1/8 or it didnt happen. You suck as a photographer, get the fuck off /p/.

Hay /p/, first attempt at HDR.
Yes, I've given in.
First reaction to this: fuck HDR, its not even THAT good.
Thinking of it now: It really really gives you more DR to play with and make subtle improvements to pictures..

C/C?

first of all, wrong thread

second, it's a picture of a goddamn guitar

how much dr did you really fucking need

take it well exposed once and that's it
>> Anonymous

I actually really like that.

Yeah, i fucked up on the thread, i didn't realise i was in REPLY mode.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>143155
Er. Not consistently, no. That's kind of the point I was trying to make there...

Also: What's a 2.8 not a 4.0? If you mean the 70-200L IS, it comes in both an f/2.8 and an f/4.0 version. The f/4.0 was the one being discussed. And the f/2.8 version costs about $1700 which doesn't affect the argument I was making in any way.
>> Anonymous
>>143314

...

that's the point i was making as well

you just took my joke badly when i said owned and asked me to take 1/13 no IS which is stupid

and i have a 2.8 and i was showing off

owned

Great lens in terms of versatility, but horrible in terms of quality. The color sucks and artifacts are very visible.
>> Anonymous
>>143357
Sucky color doesn't matter on digital, and AFAIK it's a digital-only lens.

As far as artifacts, I don't get how a lens would cause artifacts. Unless you mean all the old 18-55 non-IS lenses people dumped.
>> Depressed Cheesecake !wFh1Fw9wBU
>>143363
I can't really describe it, I guess. Shoot with it then compare those shots with an L series and you'll see a huge difference.
>> Anonymous
>>143367

don't be a faggot
>> Anonymous
>>143367
I don't own it, and the only shots out of it I've seen are ac's on here. But I've heard the quality is great and I really like the bokeh in the shots I've seen.

Do you mean you just don't like the way it draws the picture, or do you mean actual image artifacts? Because the former is a perfectly valid subjective opinion and the latter doesn't really make sense.
>> Anonymous
i don't think he knows what artifacts means
>> Anonymous
uh, holy shit.

thats my fucking photo. I posted it on a couple forums (FM and tribalwar) and just browsing /p.. there it is.

I cranked up the sat and contrast in camera (40D) so its not really a true test of the lens, but whatever.
>> Anonymous
and IS wasn't on, for the record. Its just sitting on its ass, on a table.

I just made that to show someone (im selling the lens) its reasonably sharp. its not intended to be "art" or whatever.
>> Butterfly !xlgRMYva6s
