in what way does a 500mm lens "flatten" facial features?

Anyone have an example?? 0.o

In the same way that it flattens everything else. Telephoto compresses perspective.

Unfortunately, the only person I know who has a 500mm lens isn't speaking to me right now, so I can't really give an example. If you want to see the opposite though, take a close-up portrait of someone with an 18mm. It's like that, but backwards.

Protip: This image is old, probably older than you are, and has nothing to do with the OP.

It does make me cringe when the instant someone gets a few bucks for using their camera they wave their e-peen on the internet or tell everyone in real life that they are "pros".

My god, I hate guys who prefer massive telephotos. Inadequacy in their pelvic area and then spreads to perpetuate their e-penis.
