First Cam for along time! Anonymous
Recently purchased the Nikon P5100, my first digital compact, infact the last camera I had was bought over 10 years ago.

By no means a photographer, but I've been mucking around with the M mode and doing abit of googling regarding subjects like ISO, f numbers, shutter speed etc. So thought I'd pop them up here for comments.

First shot is a tad "soft" around the edges I think..dunno, this is all rather new to me.

Utterly random shot, with no thought to lighting etc, it was a case of "I like those high speed photos, wonder if I can do it". So I wacked the tap on and shot...and yes, terrible limescale!

extreme fast shutter speed TO THE EXTREM
>> Sicko !L3HRY/miC.
>>113078

Pfft, as if you never did this kind of thing when you first got a camera. Give him a week or two to work it out of his system.

>>113076

You ain't kidding about that limescale...

>>113081

Most might do it at some point, but for fuck's sake everyone doesn't need to show it off like a child proudly holding up a full potty.

His Point and Shoot has a faster maximum shutter speed than my camera... : (

Well not very original I admit, just hopefully 'ok' shots of unoriginality.

Trying to get abit of practice with it at any rate, going to Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and perhaps Mt Fuji) in March, hopefully can achieve more interesting shots. Want to get to grips with exposure, ISO as nightlife in Roppongi and Shinjuku I'd like to capture, musing getting a Tripod for long(er) exposures.

have fun

don't let some of the /p/ fags scare you
>> Sicko !L3HRY/miC.
>>113087

March is plenty of time to get a load of practice in and get used to your camera. And definitely get a tripod for long night time exposures.

I don't know how big the Nikon P5100 is.. but if it's pretty damn lightweight then OP can purchase one of those mini tripods. The ones that fit in your pocket

>>113165
Yeah, it's definitely pocketable and will work easily on a mini-tripod.

in shinjuku-ku you should check out yodobashi camera. amazing store, and fun for pros/amateurs alike to be in. the great thing about this store is you can test out and oggle over all the latest dslrs on the second floor.

at any rate, i was disappointed in myself when i was there, because there is a huge market of 35mm used cameras, and an abundance of stores and shops dedicated to selling film/processing/making prints.

also here is a video showing it. its just across from the bus station.

I actually remember visiting there when I visited Japan. It's a neat little shopping district there (pic related, I took it there). There is another electronics store just a block or so away that is something like 7 stories of insanity. They have all the SLRs and anything you could want for accessories. Also, if you continue on towards the Tokyo City Hall building there is a Canon outlet just about 5 minutes or so from this little shopping area. It is directly across the street from the Keio Plaza Hotel (which is where I stayed).

Thankyou very much, I shall certainly check it out whilst I'm out there!

I'll be investing in a mini tripod, sounds ideal, don't want to be hampered by lugging something bulky around. Just got to pick some good nightime spots next.

i stayed there >__<

There is Bic camera and Yodobashi Camera in shinjuku and iirc there are a few (at least one) 2nd hand lense shops north of the train station.

Keio Plaza ftw. Neat place to wander around. I bought some Cognac in the gift shop. This is the City Hall or something similar.

That's it. Is it the US equivalent of a city hall? I never did figure that out.

Dont know, i dont think it is its just an office building for the goverment (or a nuclear reactor for GiTS fans).

This is how you take photos of it.

Nuclear reactor! Nuclear reactor!

GiTS is probably the only good anime I've seen in years. Normally I don't like that kind of thing.
