so guys, seeking your infinite knowledge and incomparable wisdom on a buy.

I had worked with a cybershot W35 for few month and quite liked it but it wasn't mine and now I want to buy something better.

now I had my eyes on Nikon P5100 and now P6000, but since P6000 is kinda new I haven't been able to get a good review, so here I am askin' you for help. what do you think of P6000? as in features, quality etc... and specially compared to P5100. I want something for everyday use, complexity is not a problem as long as it doesn't go in the range of professional photography, after all I want a compact camera for home...

also, what do you think of D90 for someone who want to enter the Amateur photography world, for someone with practically no knowledge on photography and wants to start? and what Nikkor lens would you suggest? I mean I don't wanna have to change it soon after I got a hang of it, I'd rather pay for it when buying the camera.

pic related and thx for the help in advance

As I recall, Nikon's compacts aren't that great, they need alot of work to do with them, I don't know about this new batch but the P5100 sure isn't great.

If you're looking for a similar compact then I'd rather get a G9 (or the successor) or something similar.

Personally I don't have a compact but I really like the Fujis.

The Nikon D90 is great though, since you said you have no knowledge, there are auto modes to rely on and a good lens, I don't know, the new 18-105mm plus a 50mm f1.8 does nicely.

And wow, that photo taken with a Phase one P30, it's nice, been long after the P25.

did you forget to remove that part from your copypasta

i have full resolution images from a P30+

but i can't post them because it's too elite for you guys
>> Grev !!5D+HXONd/uX

Yes sir, too elite indeed.

I've got a fair bit of P21 files as well.

Still don't compare to the 1.1gb scans though.

the first time posted the thread, it had quite a few problems, I had to remove it and repost it and I forgot to edit that part.

also, thx guys... anymore comments?

I've seen previews of P5100, wasn't as bad as you sound it to be sir.

well that isn't P6000 but then again the other one isn't a G10 too... I'm so confused, please help.

p5100 is fine if you can find it cheap, like $250-300 USD, whatever that is in gbp

they're all pretty much the same, talking about p5xxx/6xxx vs. g9 or g10
>> Fresh Prince of Persia !!klmsTxt9nWG
>>265583

well here the prices are different, P5100 is about 380 USD and P6000 is about 430, so I think the P6000 is more reasonable but dunno about the G9/10 though
>> Fresh Prince of Persia !!klmsTxt9nWG
please help me choose between these two:

p6000 is more of a "photographer"'s camera, more manual controls, probably better controls and possibly better lens

p80 is a bridge superzoom, so it's a point-and-shoot that can zoom in a whole fucking lot and that's about it
>> Fresh Prince of Persia !!klmsTxt9nWG
>>265606

>p6000 is more of a "photographer"'s camera, more manual controls, probably better controls and possibly better lens

you mean beside the automodes?

>p80 is a bridge superzoom, so it's a point-and-shoot that can zoom in a whole fucking lot and that's about it

>>bridge superzoom

what is it?

so If I want a great photo in moderate and close distance P6000 is a good choice, right?
>> Anonymous
>>265610
fuckin hell it took you that long to work it out, but if you're willing to spend the money on a p6000 i suggest you buy the G9
>> Fresh Prince of Persia !!klmsTxt9nWG
>>265619

would you be kind enough to explain why?

I shoot sometimes with a p5100 and it's pretty damn good for being a piece of shit. It gives you much more control than a lot of other cameras. Picture quality isn't going to be fantastic but if you are simply looking for something that's going to teach you the very basic fundamentals of shooting the p5100 is pretty good.

Pic is a shitty one, but it's the only one I could find on this computer that was taken with my p5100.

>>but if you are simply looking for something that's going to teach you the very basic fundamentals of shooting the p5100 is pretty good.

it's a very good thing but until then, does it have good automodes too? I read in a review about them good for even good SLR users that want something for daily, everyday everywhere use...

>I shoot sometimes with a p5100 and it's pretty damn good for being a piece of shit.

do you mean it's good for a compact non-professional(or semi, or whatever) cam in it's price range?

Of the little experimentation I've done with the autos, it's pretty solid, espically the close up mode.

As far as what I meant by my second comment, having an expensive point and click is like being the smartest autistic kid in the class, you're still retarded, and it's still not that amazing of a camera in contrast to a DSLR. I do not regret buying it because it has taught me a lot about photography and I still use it when I'm going on trips or to parties.

I wouldn't use it as a surrogate for serious photography but you stated that you just started and this is where I got my start (not to say that I'm any good) but I think you can learn a lot from the p5100, it's going to give you a lot more options and control than almost any other point and click.

Attached is a pic of Ellis Island I took with the camera's B and W, the colors look pretty good for an in camera feature.

ps. what do you guys think of the Nikon SB 400 for a P6000? you know I really hate when indoor shots, in parties, birthdays etc ruined because of the light.
>> macbeth !p.rX.niGWk
get an omnibounce, or some sort of diffuser (or consider bouncing it off the ceiling), the flash doesn't really matter, as long as you know how to use it.
>> Fresh Prince of Persia !!klmsTxt9nWG

ok, thank you guys, really appreciate the help and guidance, specially the guys with P5100 feedback and reviews.

I got it here from the only official Nikon and Canon representative around, for 350 bucks, now G9 was 450 bucks... and it looked like a brick, weights just about as much as one too, and let's just don't talk about the ergonomy, I mean comeone if you wanna bleed for that much money at least makes it worthwhile... seriously how different techinically are G9 and P5100?

now I wanted a P6000 but they said it'll take some time till it get imported and since I hadn't seen a single solid review about it, not a marketting ad, a review by someone who is using it, so I thought I'd better go with 5100, I've waited enough.

thanks /p/ I'll post some preview very soon... nice way to become a /p/haggot(the best name I could come up with for the lowest rank of /p/ user)

can you tell me what exactly is an omnibounce? abrand or a type? and what's a diffuser? I heard something about not going direct with flash because of unnatural light etc... before but not enough.

ok, anybody know a good guide for starters around the net? yeah yeah, I know google but I wouldn't trade /p/'s suggestion for it.

I actually used it, and I had access to all brands of compacts.

I compared the Panasonics, Canons, Olympus, Fujis, Nikons, Pentax, Ricoh... etc.

Performance wise can't really beat the Fujis.

Feature wise the Panasonic is beat.

Marketing wise, Canon wins.

And for Nikons, they're really are average.
>> Fresh Prince of Persia !!klmsTxt9nWG
>>266494

if I had purchased a G9, it would've been appropriate, costs, wights as much a gold brick, makes quite a damn fine melee weapon, and here I was thinking Nikon was the more expensive brand.

ps. a friend of mine was so interested in Panasonic Lumix series, after seeing the Nikon pricetags in the same level, he regretted ever thinking about it.
>> Anonymous
Nikon compacts are shit. Their SLRs are great, but the compacts are not.
>> Fresh Prince of Persia !!klmsTxt9nWG
>>266512

>>Fujis

not the best marketting here, hell I'd be lucky to find a good importer with good guaranty and service. I'm the cautious type on that matter, I don't wanna get it butchered or pay half the price on repair if something happens.

>>Panasonic

for some reason, never liked the brand, not just in cameras I mean in general.

and price was the "main" problem about canon here, since the same company here imports and guarantees Canon and Nikon, also they throw in a year of insurance... a good insurance may I add with the Nikons, so the only reasonable choice for me came down to Nikon, I mean do you justify canons 100 bucks difference?

>>266515

>> Grebbin !!M4ehTJKOnNf
>>266524
Seriously, if it was a G9, I would get it over the Nikon p5100. Printed out some samples from the Nikon, didn't really like what I saw, never saw any prints from the G9 but from what's on the screen, looks better.

Last time I checked the price of the G9 in Australia is roughly $699, and the p5100 is around $549.

And yes, fuji needs to market better, I mean, they're making the Hasselblad H series lenses, they should do better for themselves.
>> Fresh Prince of Persia !!klmsTxt9nWG
>>266525

because the whole world's market centers around where you live... right? not every damn place in this planet... no, most of the places on this planet aren't exactly the dreamland you know. I actually feel lucky we have no domestic Camera maker, since it the prices would've gone sky high on foreign products for "supporting domestic industries", domestic industries can kiss my ass as long as they don't intend to give me the quality I want with the reasonable price.

>>266538

thx for the advice and explanation.

can't deny the wonders of good marketing in any industry, Toyota is a fine example in general, selling products to third world countries, UN, terrorists, both ends of the same war in africa, major drug smugglers in middle east and the rest of the planet...

so anybody know a good guide for starters?
