SLR -> P&S -> DSLR Anonymous from Malaysia
/p/,

I recently acquired a Canon EOS 400D, after using the Nikon Coolpix 7900 since 2005. This is the second SLR (though the first dSLR) I got. The first one, a Canon EOS 1000F went "blergh I'm dead" a few years back.

Naturally, having not used an SLR for a couple of years rusts my skills somewhat. What I want to ask is, what is it that I need to know/pay attention to in the change from SLR-P&S-DSLR?

Pretty simple... forgot EVERYTHING you leanred using a P&S camera...

Re-learn how to look down a tiny hole instead of looking at an LCD to compose your images. Get used to the size and weight again.

Really, the 400D makes for a nice transition camera, as it still retains all the preset modes from their P&S cameras, while having all the functionality expected from a (d)SLR.

Really, the best advice possible? Just USE IT! :)
