looking to get a new digital camera soon (next 6-12 months) and was wondering what /p/ uses.

currently shooting with a Fujifilm S1000fd 10.2 MP advanced point and shoot

all I know right now is that I will never get any of the Canon Digital Rebel Series, other than that I have no idea

also price is the biggest issue

pic related, current camera

If price is the issue not to buy low end DSLRs then stop dreaming and go back to beg on the streets.

Protip: You can save money by eating only cheap canned food and selling other possessions you might have. I prefer this tactic when it comes to buying cameras.

Start with what you don't like about your current camera.

Any Rebel will be miles above what you have now. It sounds like you are too poor to be a snobby gearfag.

why wouldn't you get a Rebel? they're worlds better than the D40/D60 in terms of lens compatibility, and they are great for the price, especially if you get an XT or XTi
fucking snobs, OH LOL IT SAYS REBEL THAT MEANS ITS FOR STUPID HIPSTERS

>OH LOL IT SAYS REBEL THAT MEANS ITS FOR STUPID HIPSTERS

Well, yes, that's exactly what it means, but that's beside the point.

450D is decent, but I'd probably point someone to a 10/20/30D over it. The other rebels, Dx0s, Kx00Ds, I don't know Sony's lineup, suck. The E-420 sucks, but with the 25/2.8 on it it at least has something to justify its existence. That isn't to say they're not capable of making good pictures, that they don't have their uses, or that they might be the best option in isolated cases. But they suck as cameras.

The only genuinely good entry-level DSLR made yet is the Pentax *ist D, and to varying extents its follow-up models. Pic related.

OP's post is pretty useless for giving recommendations, though, because it doesn't even tell us what type of camera he's looking for besides a digital one, what format sensor he's looking for, or what "price is the biggest issue" means. That he absolutely can't spend over 600 USD? Or 300 USD? Or 100 USD?

Oh, which reminds me, what area are you in? Prices differ radically across the world.

Seconded. And if price is an issue, Ritz has the *ist DS kit on clearance for less than $250. Just ask someone at your local store to express order one for you.

1/10, WAY too fucking obvious. Try again later.

The original *ist still does have some things on the DS, though.

40&show=all

-Everything listed in the .png: two control dials, a viewfinder that is either larger than or ties every other crop DSLR ever made, a top screen.
-AA batteries, which IMO are better if they can be worked into the design otherwise, as they clearly were here.
-11 AF points, versus the D40's three.
-A focus motor
-IMO, better lenses on average in the system, which isn't to say there aren't plenty of great Nikkors or bad Pentaxes.
- Precisely eight moar pixulz.

I know, and the opposite could be said as well, but the *ist DS is the one on clearance.
