How do I macro right? I'm havin the hardest time. I point all my lamps at the leaf, but it's still too dark. I can get it alright with my tripod but I can't get close with it. If I zoom from even a foot away it won't focus. It seems it wasn't this hard with my old now broken camera.
This is as focused as I could get it when this close. Any brighter and it's blurry. I really like this leaf and really want a good picture of it but I'm failing hard :(
I'll follow up with others that came out about the same.

changed metering to spot, helps but only on an angel like this. I'd like the whole leaf in focus, not just a spot.
Last one. What am I doing so wrong?

Well, I tried something else. I broke out the tripod again, and taped the leaf to the board. I propped the board so it would stand vertically less than a foot from the camera, and that worked out. Here's the final and best one.

I just realized what my problem was. I forgot to turn up the ISO. I always forget that!
I don't think it's worth reshooting though, I like what I got.

good? bad? boring? advice?

Very... very boring.

Maybe with a different background colour. White?

I doubt it'll ever be a good photo though. Cut your losses.

Put the leaf outside in the grass or something; no one wants to see shit on your kitchen table.
