DSLR Sensor + Sunlight = fail? rix
I hear of bad things for sensors: dust and too much sunlight. I know of the perils of dust in the sensor but whats the worst to happen to CMOS sensors which spend half the time taking photos of sunsets and sunrises?

which is why i shoot moon rise / sets instead heh

You dummy, you're not even focused at infinity.

The sun and moon are just light sources. Just don't take super long exposures of the burning noon sun, and you're fine.

Some lenses focus past the infinity mark to accomidate for infared photography.

okay... then you just need to remember how much to turn the focus ring backwards from the "past infinity" position, it's not that hard.

btw this works even with electronically-coupled focusing rings

If they focus past infinity for IR they are quite likly to have the infinity mark on them.

Actually the "real" infinity tends to be a little before the end of the focus ring..
