It'd take forever to set up and take the shot. What they did do in those days was to load the film using a holder and line up the shot using the Kalart, compose the scene with the viewfinder (on top of the camera), and take the shot with the Graflex Flash Gun (slow asa in those days). In this way, the Photog could snap off at least two pictures per minute (4 if he was really good at it).
Using the glass would entail a lot longer process.
