question about Sigma non HSM lenses Anonymous
this is what i don't understand

most of the time, if a Sigma lens doesn't have HSM in the tag, they can't autofocus with a d40/d60 because they don't have autofocus motors, i get it

but NONE of the Canon bodies have autofocus motors either, so OBVIOUSLY the motors are in the lenses

so why can't those same lenses autofocus with a d40/d60?

Long story short: it has something to do with nikon being a few steps behind canon when it comes to making good cameras.

Short story long: you can mount any SLR lens Nikon has ever made on their new bodies. There are definite functionality sacrifices that come with that, but it's just a question of design priorities. Nikon COULD abandon the F mount and go all electronic like Canon/Sony, but they choose not to.

but why is it only the Sigma HSM (and some non HSM exceptions) that autofocus with the d40/d60?

is it Sigma's fault?
