I'd steer away from fish and birds in zoos, it's hard to get anything worthwhile from them in zoos. You tend to get the same boring crap as other people get when shooting them there. Mammals you can do better with.
Most people want to see animals without the enclosure, so use that telephoto you have and blur it out. Do not worry about through fences, you can blur it by being close the fence and having the animal further back, same with windows. If strong light is on it though, it's harder to blur out. Though you can use the enclosure to make an emotional appeal, most such shots are kinda eh and are over done.
