Hay guise, why does this happen, and is there a way to get rid of it?

you can go into photoshop and just selectively remove the blue, by using a mask..

this is chromatic aberration, caused by the high contrast light and the lens. easy way to remove, simply desaturate with sponge in photoshop.

Thanks guys, i'm new at using a camera, knowing this helps alot. I'm guessing reducing the exposure gets rid of this as well, right? Oh, and the pic is the unsharpened bit of a pencil, just randomly took it to show what i meant.

reducing the exposure would get rid of it slightly, while ruining the picture. a better bet would be to stop down the aperture. this can help slightly. but for the one time out of 100 that it actually matters, just desaturate in photoshop. and buy high-quality (pro) lenses, as they have better control over chromatic aberration.

Wrong. This is lateral chromatic aberration and it's a whole different thing.
