the D80 costs roughly the same as the 450d if not cheap and has a better viewfinder, build quality, dual control wheels, top lcd and a whole host of features that the canon doesn't have

I'm a canonfag and I agree with that comment. D80 > 450D in a lot of ways.

However, the same can be said for the Canon 30D that's also available on closeout right now.
