Foggy/cloudy day - improve with pp? Anonymous
So, I recently went to Vietnam. The entire time I was there, it was foggy or cloudy. All my shots either have neutral washed out overcast skies with no definition, or are foggy like in this shot.

Is there anything I can do in post-processing to make it less boring? I don't expect there's much I can do, but I figured I'd ask.

Here's an example of the skies the rest of the time.

I don't think you can really fix it in post. Better choice would have been to have worked with the fog instead of fighting it.

(This unhelpful post brought to you by my desire to show off a fog picture I took yesterday)

:P
yeah, that's what I figured. I worked as best I could with the fog, but I really didn't expect it, and really had no idea what to do. (shrug) I'm not really upset by the fog pics anyway, since a lot of them look interesting/mysterious. It's mostly the boring non-coloured sky, as in the second pic that irks me. -_-

Uh, examples of how I post-processed, in one case i think it's better, and in the other, I think it's debatable!

I like this. It might be a little bit easier to focus on the gals/bridge if you crop off the top and the tree on the right- turn them into the main focus. It'd look kinda cool.

As for the fog one.. it's still a little muddy and the yellow is sort of distracting, i'd actually keep it as you had it in the OP. I kinda liked it the way it originally was. Sorry you got stuck in fog your whole trip :/

i agree with the yellow one. i just tried a bit of cross-processing, and while it does add colour, bleeeh. like i said, a lot of the fog shots are actually pretty cool because of the fog. I was just tryin' stuff out.

also, definitely agree on the cropping. Thanks for the tip. :)

Would a circ polarizing filter help in this situation?

Possibly yes. Especially with the sky. Also changing around the exposure might help. It'd have to be played with a little bit, i think, until we'd know for sure
