E-330 Anonymous
I'm new and inexperienced in the photography scene. I may buy this camera off a friend whose main hobby is photography. He said it was barely used. My question is this: is an olympus (evolt) E-330 any good? Keep in mind I'm by no means a professional and don't even know the basics yet.

(Whether you hate Olympus or not, would it be a good starter camera?)

tl;dr: E-330 good for noob like me?

well keep in mind, with dSLR cameras you are not just getting the camera, you are getting all the proprietary lenses and accessories that go with that brand. i say think about what kind of photography you plan / hope to do and buy accordingly. each vendor has their strengths and weaknesses. people hate / love oly and i don't really have an opinion on their lineup of dslr cameras or gear. your best bet is to google lots of the better known cameras out there and to compare and contrast the pros and cons of each camera. try to figure out what camera / lens linup fits you best. you can use a lens for a long long time, a camera's technology will be outdated, the lens will not be affected by technology jumps as much.

I always thought the E-330 just looked stupid. People who own them seem to love them, however. See if your friend will let you mess around with it for an afternoon. See for yourself if you like it.

E-330 is weird, but it's one of the most win cameras in the 4/3 system.

Yea he has 40 - 150 mm and 14 - 45 mm lenses that would be included. I assume with these two lenses they will cover nice mid-range photos? (just judging by the 14 - 150 mm that the two would give me) Also, I read many reviews over the internet and didn't find anything inherently wrong with the camera. (dark photos seemed like a low point for the camera, as well as the looks, but it doesn't bother me at all)

The 14-45mm lens is basically up there with all the other standard kit lens-which is probably fine for what you're doing.

The 40-150mm f3.5-4.5 however, is a pretty fucking solid lens. Best kit lens I've ever had.

Agreed. The 40-150mm is a badass kit lens.

The 14-42mm kit lens is a little better than the 14-45mm, IMO.

Well I'll be getting those two lenses with the camera as well as the body, a case, a charger with the 1 battery and a lens hood. I'll be getting a 256 CF card too; all together for $400. I think I'll just do it as it seems like a nice starter camera for me.

Well it's now mine. I fail at knowledge of photography.
