What does /p/ think of Lars Tunbjörk's work?
>> Anonymous
a 12 year old who knows how to focus a camera could do this, and then some.

there's nothing to think about here. if the photographer didn't have anything in mind when he was taking the pictures, why should we when looking?

pretentious bullshit.
>> Anonymous
It looks like a P&S snapshot taken by a 14 year old girl who thinks she has talent but really only has models.
>> Anonymous
I'd be interested in seeing more work to see if it's all as terrible as the one OP posted.

Reminds me of a picture used by internet blogs when they compile a "top 10" list of office 'whatever'
>> Anonymous
awww lol I love finding people like you on 4chan. Not enough crazy effects for you? It's not that there's nothing to think about, it's just that you don't want to. It's a lot easier to call it shit than to admit that you don't immediately get what he was going for. I was hoping whoever responded might have an actual opinion.
Not "it's shit".

>>You obviously don't understand "art", hehe, if you haven't taken a class and been told the redeeming qualities you're supposed to look for in a piece then you won't 'get it'
>> Anonymous
>>299168
hey, what's your opinion?

>>299183
FUCK YOU YOUR OPINION IS WRONG LOL I'M NOT BUTTHURT LOL
>> Anonymous
>>299184
Not about taking art classes either. It's more about observing details and seeing that there's a story behind the picture. Art is about expression. Not technicalities.
>> Anonymous
>>299190
okay, I'm guessing the story behind the picture is these two office friends (one is clearly male, the other appears to be female) just got finished eating lunch. for whatever reason, they stayed in rather than going out.

Just because there's a story there doesn't mean it doesn't suck. it's boring, and it's ugly.
>> Anonymous
>>299186
I'm not saying they're opinion is wrong. Just that it's not an opinion. >pretentious bullshit.
Well thought out sir.
>> Anonymous
i love it when people call pictures like this "work"

"oh yeah check out my deviantart id like to show you my work"
>> Anonymous
>>299194
way to only notice the two word summary rather than the actual post

okay thank you. You actually took the time to think about it. So our opinions differ, oh well.

Since you seem to believe that you see something the rest of us are missing, please explain why this initially ugly and poorly composed image is worthy of serious consideration.

to simplify your logic: because it's not a favorable opinion, it's invalid entirely.

to correct you: an opinion is neither wrong nor right; it's like religion. everyone thinks their religion is the right one.

OP would make a good communist

If the original picture is one of this artist's works, I have to say it is not interesting.

Initially I see a normal office setting. Boring, yes. But when I took the time to see it I came up with some thoughts. We are viewing a moment in time, a glimpse or tiny piece of a greater whole. The woman in the picture is dressed in full business attire as you would expect, yet she’s sitting up on the desk in the cubicle cross legged. Her body language communicates a lot. The way she’s pulling the chair towards her made me think she’s going to put her legs up. The man’s blazer is draped over the back of his chair. These elements suggest to me that the two pictured here have been at work for a good long while. There’s a casual air to them that offsets the cold feel or idea of an office job. There’s a discarded bag from an anonymous fast food restaurant underneath the desk that tells me the sanctuary of lunch break is long since past. It's not something you can wrap up in a neat little package and say he was going for this or it's symbolic of that. I believe he's just pointing our attention towards a situation that's illustrating the contrast between the stereotype of an office job and the reality of the inner workings of these environments. It's supposed to seem boring, Sorry if you don't like my interpretation.

here's another of his pieces for you to tear apart.

Ha ha ha ha ha holy fuck go choke on a bucket of dicks and die, you pretentious artfag.

This is a shit photo with shit composition, shit staging, and shit framing.

NOTHING ABOUT THIS PHOTOGRAPH IS GOOD. It looks like it was taken with a fucking Kodak Easyshare camera by some dickhead who was taking a picture of "LOL SARAH DECIDED TO SIT ON BRIAN'S DESK LEMMIE GET A SNAPSHOT FOR MY WIFE LOL"

This is not art.
This is junk, and this fag is and will remain unrecognized outside his small circle of pretentious artfag friends.

Emperor's new clothes + pretentious faggots reading epic stories into an unmade bed, a blank canvas or a pile of bricks. Nowadays "artists" can rely on the fashionable fops to bullshit for them and justify their work in grand terms, even if it is a shameless attempt to gouge money or mock the empty-headed idiots buying it (as has happened more than once).
>> Anonymous
hey hey guys. instead of tearing DOWN the piece, give some advice on how you would make it work.

and going on the idea of art=opinion, just bring up the question of what is art?

personally, i think that jackson pollock sucks. but a lot of people like it. that doesnt mean i go around calling him 'a fucking bitch who cant paint worth SHIT'.

i just shut the fuck up and let others who like it waste 450 million buying his crap.

i advise you too as well.
>> Anonymous
I think his work is mediocre. On a par with the average deviantart page. If you want to follow in his footsteps or that of any other flavour of the month photographer then remember that being a good businessman (or having one to help you) will help you more than being a bad businessman and an excellent photographer.

OP here.
I'm not defending THIS work so much as I am every piece of artwork that is called pretentious just because a majority of people don't get it. After all the arguments I've made in this thread, I'm still not sure whether or not I like this piece. I just hate that familiar retort that goes "this is shit/I could do this/anyone could do this." So what? You didn't. Take it for what it is and quit bitching.

> I believe he's just pointing our attention towards a situation that's illustrating the contrast between the stereotype of an office job and the reality of the inner workings of these environments.

I don't know about any other anons experiences, but the situation you claim this picture is describing is entirely foreign to any office related situation I have ever experienced or heard of?

I think the reason the people who study photography "get" this picture is because they study photography and snap pictures and have no idea what it's like in an office and don't know any better?
>> Anonymous
I have to say, upon review of the rest of his work, I find it meaningless and boring. Seriously, ANYONE with a point-and-shoot camera can take those photos. *sigh* Why do people call this art?
