Just got back from a portfolio workshop yesterday :) My notes(keep in mind this is with submitting to a gallery or for review): Don't go over 25 images MAX, 20 preferably. have a common theme, don't have a bunch of landscape with a couple studio pic of food thrown in there, even if they're strong pictures. First pic and probably the first 4-5 need to be your strongest. Reviewers have seen a shitload of portfolios and you need something in there to capture their attention. Don't forget your cover letter and resume, also, a little postcard/brochure/business card is great to throw in there, hopefully whomever is reviewing will keep it. Also, CONTACT INFORMATION Websites- have one, keep it simple, no flash bullshit, just display your pictures, preferably in the same format as your portfolio.
The rest of my notes are in my backpack at the office, but I think thats the bulk of them. The guy we were talking with presented as an emerging photog trying to get into galleries.
