Candid snapshots Anonymous
I'm interested in street and candid photography but wondering what kind of equipment I should be toting around. Anything similar to a Leica? Or should my crappy rebel xti be sufficient.

And I came across this website http://www.lomography.com/. Their flagship product is the Lomo LC-A+. Is it all hype or is it actually a decent thing to use for snapshots. Helps?

Lomos are for artfags looking for funky colors and blurry exposures. Snapshots can also be done with compact cameras or rangefinders depending on your budget and intended output.

(OP) I've taken some pictures in crowded public markets with my xti and I usually get some raised eyebrows. harhar. Wondering if I need to work on being less conspicuous. maybe a smaller camera would help? Anybody with experience?

An XTi is the same size as a Leica. The camera doesn't fucking matter.

the big difference between rangefinders and slrs isn't the size, it's just that rfs tend to be more inconspicuous because of the smaller lenses, and people more easily dismiss them as 'crappy cameras' when they look at them, but when they look at SLRs, they think 'lolpro'

But yeah, the camera really doesn't matter. Use whatever you want to use. I carry a rangefinder for stuff like that, but I do so because I like using that camera, not because I need to use it. It's just more convenient personally because 1) my 400D is xbox hueg (can't remove my battery grip, I don't have a battery door) and 2) it's film. People always want to see their picture right after you take it and telling them you're shooting film is a quick way to make them go away.

Provided you get a working copy at a decent price (that is, not from Lomography), the LC-A is a very competent camera. The Lomography philosophy is 99% bullshit though.

I'd rather use a rangefinder for street/candid stuff, but I wouldn't buy into a new system just to do it - your XTi is good enough. If you already have a digital or film compact they could be handy too.
