Hey /p/ I bought a D40 a few months ago, and feel like I have advanced with the camera. Being a poorfag it was the only camera I could afford and I didn't really do my research probably and have come to realize it doesn't have a focusing motor ;(

However I want to get a new lense to advance with further, and also one that I can use in the future when I finally sell my D40.

I was thinking in upgrading the kit lense 18-55mm with the more expensive version?

Any suggestions, thanks!

Youre shit out of luck. You could probably learn something new with fast prime, but there are none for you because the lack of focusing motor.

srsly? there are no primes on the market that will focus with the D40?

OP here: I was looking for primes but BAWWWWWW no auto focusing. Is there any 3rd party f/1.4 or 1.8 30/50mm? or wider?

ditch the d40 and go buy used d50.

Sigma's 50/1.4 and Tamron's 17-50/2.8 are neat, both autofocuses with D40 afaik. At least the newer version of the Tamron does iirc.

Has anyone used the Tamron 18-250?
It looks decently-priced and can autofocus with the D40 at the same time as having a kickass zoom range and image stabilization.
I want it but I'm not so sure about its usability.

pro tip: it doesn't have VC aka IS

can no one beat butterfly's high score?

Yep, Sigma has a 30/1.4 and they're coming out soon with a 50/1.4.

>>206571beethy > DC > pentard > butterfly > okto > sage > martin

DC has been trolling like a faggot extraordinaire lately while beethy only makes a random post

Pentard doesn't deserve 3rd place because he only got all up in the mix WITH DC in that thread, another reason why DC should be #1

butterfly is master level troll and he's not that big a faggot

martin is a bigger faggot than sage just for sheer amount of idiotic posts but both are at the same level of faggotry

Thanks. I hadn't read any reviews before now and now I see that it has a fuckton of distortion and vignetting all the way from 18-250.
I guess I'll just get the nikon 55-200mm and have to switch lenses every now and then.

Yes, those are the ones. Get the 30/1.4 and the 50/1.4.

General question to /p/: for a wide for this guy, any wide primes for the F-mount with a focus motor?
>> TheGeneral !m7n7x2Yyfo
>>206707
I think the 30/1.4 is currently the widest offering from sigma.
>> TheGeneral !m7n7x2Yyfo
>>206716

wait scratch that, there's a 14/2.8 aspherical lens. Though I don't know what aspherical means.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>206717
Won't kill you not to know. TL;DR version is that it means the lens is more gooder.

Real version: Lens elements are traditionally shaped like segments of spheres, because that's the shape that can be most easily ground with machinery. However spherical elements can't control certain aberrations as well, so elements are either hand ground (fucking expensive, as seen in the AF Nikkor 28/1.4 and Noct-Nikkor 58/1.2) or altered with bits of plastic (a kit lens) to make them into optically superior shapes.
