Why is it that when I open a jpg into photoshop CS3, that PS automatically darkens the picture? I'll take a picture off the web, open in PS, and theres a noticeable difference in contrast and brightness from the original. When I try to export the same picture for web, the picture becomes under saturated and bright looking. Even when its a jpg with maximum quality. I'm not changing file types or anything. Its just jpg to jpg. How can I stop PS from doing this?

have you tried rtfm?

change ur colour settings, it must be set in your preference to convert to CMYK rather than leave at RGB.
or it could be your colour setting things in your video driver and/or photoshop.
you know those colour profile things>?

Im not dealing with CMYK at all. Its going from RGB to RGB.

In the save for web window, try right clicking on the image and make sure it isn’t showing you a different colour profile (eg. Standard Macintosh Colour). This was happening to me for a while and was a pain.

If you’re using a Mac…google, I think it’s a known issue and there are solutions.

sRGB is kinda the default colour profile, but Adobe 98 is a better choice IMO.
