Shit, I just realized I forgot to do some selective desaturation for ultimate win.

fantastic...
where is this? I can't remember who is where.

The gallery show is Dec. 15th in Los Angeles, and the calendars are done before the 10th. Pre-orders are up and we're doing an initial limited run of 500. All internation orders are signed because shipping is so damn expensive.

MOAR PICTURES!

haha, love the first picture.

the watermark should be tilted at an angle however, the black border a biit bigger with something like a white line or some shit inside of it, and the colors need to be more saturated.

(oh, and the second photo is EXCELLENT. Wish you could upload it at a larger size)

will you sell the calendars at the gallery shows??

Nice! I was planning on getting one for myself and a friend as a pressie. :D

They've not been following the "making of" either, so it'll be doubly bizarre to them. I can't wait to hear their reaction.

Damn, having the postcard shots all together like that makes mine look especially lame. So I'm going to take my postcard on a Magical Journey, taking pictures as I go.
>> pskaught
so anyone who hasn't gotten a postcard before, I've got 12 left from the 2nd run. I figure I have most of the pictures, so maybe the last 2 or three will show up. I have 6 addresses already, so 6 postcards left. Free-for-all, you know how to get them. 1 per person, if you have one already, don't ask.

I don't know how to get them. :(

You only missed it because you went with Sony. That is the prevailing opinion. In fact I'd be so bold as to claim it was fact.

It's a land of milk and honey when you don't use a Sony and swap it for a Canon instead.

You will learn your lesson one day. That Sony is your albatross. Beware!

I'd say this is one of those incidents where although the photos aren't great, you are showing some promise in that these are attempts at planning and making a nice picture rather than MySpace mirror shot, fat girl angle shots or similarly dull ones.

I think with practice, reading up on tutorials and examples and maybe a bit better camera so you can have more control, you could improve a lot. Practice makes perfect.
>> pskaught
>>94907
agreed, skip the tutorial and just get out there. I would like to see more set-up shots on /p/, lighting with a model something. I didn't see any postcards in those pictures though.
>> Anonymous
>>94962

I think for most people even with the money to get a modest set-up to try strobes the problem that holds them back is that it isn't easy to get the room for it all.
>> pskaught
>>94965
room for it? I did most all the calendar shots in my house. A few shop lights, some china balls, 200w bulbs? I'm just asking for some creativity. Who was the guy who did the timed exposure of the bottle with the blue tooth headset?
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
I've been considering getting more into it. Nearly all of my work has been outdoors before or when indoors only taking shots as I can like the photojournalists. With the long winter setting in it might be a good idea to experiment more with indoor and set-up shots. Wouldn't do any harm to learn from it. I'll just have to make some more time to play with it all.
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m

paper lanterns for diffusion? Nice..... brb going to hobby lobby.

>> pskaught
>>95011
china balls are used in movies all the time. Though they make them 30" and larger in different shapes, with significantly larger wattages and different materials.

http://www.jemlighting.com/products.html

but what you can find at IKEA or most chain hardware stores works just as well.

http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/90103409

you can find daylight balanced bulbs at these same places.

or even this:

>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m

>> Anonymous
>>95028
but...it still doesnt make much of a difference what he used.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>95028

I found some very high power bulbs on eBay for continuous lighting. Pretty cheap. They sell them for treating SAD, but it'll do for me. They don't gobble up too much power being "energy saving" types. They are bright enough that it hurts to look at them for long without diffusion.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>95031

65W - equivalent to 225 watts. They'll fit in any normal holder or lamp, which is a nice plus.
>> BlackAdder !!bSWRwu/NqzQ
>>95032

I've heard work lights or outdoor flood lights (for gardens or security, etc.) suggested as a source of very bright lights too.
>> pskaught
the only diagram I posted was continuous lighting. Everything else is strobes.

What can I say, I like having way too much light.
>> Anonymous
>>95031
SAD :(

yuo can also get some decent daylight flourescent bulbs. i got a pair of 6500k spiral ones that put out 1600 lumens and are all of 26watts. 60hz, i know.

Looks good there. Not to be sneezed at then, I see. As well as not breaking the bank for me or others they'd be quite rugged and good for storing away between shoots too, I'd imagine.
