Hello /p/

Im wanting to get into photography but im very skeptical on what Camera to buy as a starter camera. I've heard many good things about the D40 so ive been leaning to that side, but if you have some suggestions let me know.

Buy a late 70s SLR and a couple of manual focus primes, some black and white film and make a dark room out of your bathroom.

I've been quite happy with the Rebel XTi. (The black one). I definitely recommend it.

I have a nikon d70s... hasn't failed me since... and is definitely a kicker... Would recommend that bad boy... if not... the d40 is a simple easy to use camera, that has high quality resolutions..

I've been in your situation and unfortunately bought the D40. Its biggest con that it doesn't have a built-in auto-focus motor so you'll have to buy expensive lenses with built-in motors, unless you want to focus manually. Otherwise, its a great camera. I'd recommend a used D50 or D70 though.

guess what photographers had to do before autofocus abilities were added to cameras/lenses?

believe it or not, they had to manually focus them. pretty fucking hardcore don't you think?
