hey guise, I have a question about film camera construction. I noticed my little toy camera has a curved pressing plate to push down film against a curved matte as it rolls by. I assume this has something to do with field curvature or shitty optics or something but, could you guys tell me, does this happen in SLRs and or medium format cameras with better optics, or is film -supposed- to go curved around the lens center?

In a few words, do modern film slrs curve up the film in the exposure chamber?

Generally no, the exception being rotary lens panoramic cameras.
