Actually, he's testing the smile detector on the Casio Z80. It has 3 thresholds, and at the maximum he has to smile that big to trigger the shutter.

As you can see, the Z80 has sub-optimal picture quality. But at 3.5 ounces and 0.75 inches thick, it's one of the more pocketable models available. Even lighter than the Casio S series "card" cameras, which get down to 0.5 inches thick.

No, but many models have motion detection so the shutter waits until everything in frame is still. Emos don't move much, so there you go.
