But with your equipment, you don't get the bookeh beauty of f1.2 on an 85mm lens... It's not that better equipment makes you a better photog, but it lets you do stuff you can't do with worse equipment..
>> Anonymous
Good. You've learned more in a short time than most photographers learn in their life.

(That said, I think your work went down in quality here. One of the best things about your work is that when you photograph people, even posed, you're photographing them. This looks like a generic model shoot except it's your usual collaborator. Technically accomplished but no real feeling to it.)

In my opinion, equipment DOES NOT affect the quality of your image. The less time and effort you spend worrying about your equipment the more time and effort you can spend creating great images. The right equipment just makes it easier, faster or more convenient for you to get the results you need.

Meh, I feel like something is missing from these pictures, too. Something no amount of editing will fix. You're right, technically the pictures are sound and I'm shooting my friend, so I feel like the emotion should be conveyed, but maybe they're just too ... boring.

This is in reference to the OP, not the other two, which are your usual goodness. Didn't see those.

>>153891
Personally, I dislike the look of the f/1.2 Canon primes. The 50/1.4 is better than the 50/1.8 which is better than the 50/1.2, and the 85/1.2 seems to have the same look to it as the 50/1.2. Can't say anything about the 85/1.8.

Just my opinions, though.
>> Anonymous
In fact, your pictures received a MASSIVE BUMP of quality =)
Composition is lacking and that's what you are missing. But in quality.... I'm sorry, but the gear does a LOT of that for you. You can even sell this shit and "normal people" will think that is awesome. Believe me. True story

I know this is going to sound like a cop-out, but I like to give the photos a "surreal" look. I see a lot of great pictures, but the color toning just looks like something you would see if you looked outside your window. I'm not calling my work fine art, by any means, but I just like to give them an edge ... just a personal style.

Yeah, it looks great as it is, but it looks like a touristy snapshot, something I would see when flipping through a family album or vacation photos. Like I said, I just like them to be just a LITTLE over the edge, though I do admit I often take the photoshopping too far (kind of like most people do with HDR tone mapping).

are you intentionally going for a yellowish tint to the skin?

all of your pictures have it.

to all people think equipment does not make a difference.

Please show me some photos that you have shot of a nighttime sports match, such as soccer/football or rugby with a superzoom
and then compare the same photos to that of a D3 with 300/4 or 70-200 2.8

i rest my case

I personally don't even notice the vignetting or the weird colors. They're his style; it works well for him. Actually when he departs from it it's distracting. (>>153903,>>153905) It's sorta like what seeing a color Cartier-Bresson would be like.

I honestly went "What? He vignetted these? Oh, what do you know, he did."

Equipment makes a huge difference, especially with glass. Camera bodies are not created equally. Obviously a photographer isn't made better by better equipment, but better equipment can do things that crappy equipment cannot.

This was really only the case for film slrs, where image quality was the same for every film body (only difference could be seen with better lenses). Digital bodies make a huge difference on image quality.

Thanks, guys, I still appreciate the criticism, even if it's harsh. I mentioned in a previous thread that /p/ is probably the only place where photography isn't about popularity, but about actual critique. I'm sick of hearing "GREAT PHOTO A++++ (COMMENT ON MINE)" and instead prefer "You're a vignetting fag".

Not really. It's almost impossible to tell the difference blind between a full-frame and APS-C sensor produced image on screen or on a print, even large ones.

This entire thread is arguing the most moot point ever. Has anyone ever bought anything ever made ever? Cars? Musical instruments? Couches? TVs? If "same quality" means same gimmicky photoshop bull, over, and over again, then yeah. I'd say you have image consistency.

Shallow imagery, rehashed dramatic photo effects, and no concept whatsoever. It's nice that you can use photoshop. Thats great for myspace, and drivethru record bands, but you have no idea how to take a simple picture.

Take a simple picture. Take a simple picture. TAKE A SIMPLE PICTURE.

also, youve got a good looking model, dont hide her face, and get her in a nicer environment? cant offer any suggestion, but perhaps somewhere less windy? ;)
