Point and Shoot Help Anonymous
I have been looking around for a higher-end point and shoot camera.

People have pointed out to me the Canon G9 and Leica D-Lux 3 and Sigma DP-1. Are there any other choices I can compare? I can't find the Sigma locally to try out but the price and reviews kind of take it off my list of considerations.

You'd be an idiot to buy any point and shoot from Leica instead of its Panasonic counterpart. Same thing without the red dot and a slightly different firmware. Oh and it's half the price.

Also consider Ricoh's offerings (GR-D II, GX 100) and the Panasonic the Leica is based on (LX2 I think?)

Canon PowerShot A-Series

This is coming from a Nikon D70s fag with a PS3..

Can you be more specific about the Panasonic offering? Between it and the Leica are they truly the same?

Also when searching the Ricoh's they have a lot of models. Are the best the GR0D II and GX 100's you suggest? Any other insight/opinion is welcome.

Yes they are functionally exactly the same and ignore anyone who tells you otherwise. No Leica point and shoot is worth the money.

As for Ricoh, those are their "high end" cameras. They have a new consumer P&S as well (the R8) which may be good depending on your requirements.

Actually instead of just saying you want a "higher end point and shoot" tell us what you want to do with the camera and how much money you have or we can't help you.

i just bought a panasonic TZ5, probably less than what you're looking for if i understand you right.

but its got lots of manual functions, great zoom for its size and its pretty much tiny enough to go into any pocket. it also takes HD video, but i just bought it yesterday so i shouldnt endorse it just yet.

Budget is up to $1,000 (whatever the cost of the new camera is really). In the point and shoot I want to have a macro mode, wide screen resolution options, and a higher megapixel count than what I currently have which is 3. Whatever the best quality point and shoot models are is what I want......my local camera shop put in my hands a Nikon Coolpix model, the G9 and the Leica C-Lux/D-Lux. I am looking for opinion/suggestions on those cameras and on other models that compare to them.

Anything else you would like to know?
