Ok /p/ I'm interested in buying a camera and becoming an amateur photographer, I have no experience in photography and have no camera but am looking to buy something less than 400$ to start off. Any tips on a good starter camera which is actually worth the money and how I could learn about the lens etc and how to be a good photographer? I am considering taking a photography class at my career center next year so i would like to know some basics, thanks.

A good option is always to get a film SLR. You get get a good one for probably less than $50 and this would be a good way to learn the ins and outs of photography.

If you're set on a DSLR there are some relatively cheap cameras out there. Nikon D40, Canon Rebel XT, Olympus E500 or 510. You can get one of those with a kit lens for around 400. If possible I'd recommend buying just the body and getting a prime lens instead as that would be a faster lens for you to experiment with.
