Do i make the swap from Pentax to Nikon???

Want to know before i start investing in a few lens's and other bits of kit...

Yes/No, and reasons why?...

How dose the lens line up hold up to Nikons in the long run?

canon wins all the time, no questions asked.

Stick to what you use. Your photos won't become any better if you make the switch to any other brand.

Its not the photos am worried about, its the lens line up, and not wanting to switch later down the line.

For instance, am looking into a nice, fast, short wide zoom for a main lens, 12-24 for instance, somthing along those lines... but theres nothing with lower than F4 for pentax

Only difference between Canon and Nikon is the ergonomics. Go try some bodies out at some camera store and whichever system is more comfortable to your feel, go with that.

The nikon 12-24 is f4. are you thinking of the 1600$ 14-24?
Pentax makes some fantastic lenses, and the K10 and 20 seem to be great cameras, but I like the Nikon system much better. if I were to go pentax for anything, it might be a film slr.

Op here... Shit your right :P

So worth sticking with pentax (sorry am such a noob)

What would you guys say is a must have lens selection then?

I want to be able to do street and documentary style photography

Zeiss is always good :D , K mount too

stick with pentax. why? because if your sweet digital body ever decides to die out on you, you could still used most(*) of your lenses with your sweet film body backup, prefferably a pentax Kx/Mx.

have fun trying to do that with the EOS system, lol.

nope, especially not any modern high-end professional film bodies

Man, Canon's industrial designer who created that thing ought to be shot. It's like a blob with a couple dials and a lens bayonet.

Actually, Canon has had some pretty famous designers in the past. Some of which developed ideas that we take for granted today in camera body design.

fag detected. i'm guessing you love that nikon/canon copypasta

Frankly, you can trust Nikon gear. The same goes for high end Canon gear. It's reliable. It's sturdy. It will take the abuse that goes with professional rigors. You can pick up a Nikon every day, and use it, just like you use a tool. Hell, you can drive nails with old Nikons. That's the quality we're talking about here.

When you make your livelihood, you don't choose the brand that offers an equivalent, even similar system, you choose the brand that is a trustworthy and time-tested tool. Thus, Nikon. There are always distinctions to be made between Nikon and Canon, but I've often heard this statement, and I believe it: Canons are the best cameras made by engineers, but Nikons are the best cameras made by photographers. It's a generalization, but that feels very true to me.
