Greetings /p/,

I'm thinking about getting a video camera but I have no idea what to look for. I'm a nub at cameras so I don't know much about the pixels and what not.

Anyway, what should I look for as far as pixels go as well as a decent price for a video camera?

Many thanks in advance.

just buy what you can afford.

with video cameras, theyre not as picky as still cameras due to, obviously your not going to be viewing videos on super high def comp screens, judging lens resolution details, cropping, adjusting various image paramaters nor printing super sized prints that will show every flaw.

buy one with HD capabilities for future proofing.
buy one with a reasonable OPTICAL!!!! zoom. digital sucks so look for more optical.

and just generally compare between ones in your price range to see what the best you can get is...

well.. whats your budget?

also, no matter what, you should look for a used one

Good point. Alright I'll take all that in mind.

Could I get something decent under a 100 bucks? And why a used one?

Used because you wont be able to find one for <100 unless its used =P

check out your neighborhood craigslist.com.. i got an okay camera for 150 with manually adjustable zoom lens. your best bet is to camp the site's electronics section for like 2-3 weeks and hop on it as soon as someone has some good equipment they need to liquidate

digital product like this shouldnt wear out V quickly so therefore a 2nd hand could be as good as new.

On the other hand, a Digital SLr due to its mechanical shutter will wear over time but seeing as most videocams are fully digital, they shouldnt wear out...

THAT IS OF COURSE... dependent on that they are well looked after.
obvious things like physical scratches etc give it away.

also look for small give aways such as worn paint, not from scratches but from excessive use suggesting a long and well used life...
also, how dirty is the handstrap will give a fair indication of use and care.

also obviously check for things like a well functioning lens/zoom. no scracthes, odd noises, wobbling zoom case etc.

just use a lot of common sense and you should be alright.
