hey /p/, my art teacher had a whole lot of old gear sitting in a corner of her office and let me go through it today. i picked up an old promaster 75-200mm zoom and a 50mm nikon e series prime and a canon 420 ez speedlight flash. Its a much nicer flash than what i have now so my question is: im a d40 fag, is there any way that the flash will play nice with my camera and work in any mode other than manual?

nope

d40 is fail
>> Anonymous
>>135806incorrect the teaming masses that bought the camera just because they could afford it are fail. the photographer makes the picture.

I have a d40 too, and i feel like i've made a horrible purchase due to it being mostly pro-sumer faggotry.

Then I looked at my pictures and realized i only spent 550$ on the body and the two lenses it came with and didn't care anymore.

I fucking hate the term pro-sumer. There is no such thing, all professionals are consumers. There are no "professional" cameras and there are no "amateur" cameras either. There are high end, mid range, and low end cameras. Lots of amateurs use high end and top of the line cameras, and lots of professionals use mid range and and low end cameras. The term pro-sumer was invented by some marketing asshole who figured out that if you stick the word "pro" on anything photo-related, more people will buy it.

Even if the term pro-sumer wasn't bullshit, the D40 wouldn't be under that category anyway. It's a low-end camera aimed at soccer moms and other people who don't know anything about photography. It's not some magical bridge between high-end "professional" and mid-range "consumer" cameras, it's just plain old cheap shit. The only reason it costs as much as it does is because of the digital sensor. If it were a film camera, it would cost $150.

butthurt cause of not being able to make good pictures, blaming it on the camera?

A good photographer can make great pictures on any camera, it shouldn't matter.

No, no I really think there is a magical bridge there. Then you can burn that fucking bridge down and construct one yourself, then proceed to rape the village on the other side. With low noise, too.

nope, canon speedlights fail
Get an old nikon flash, KEH has the SB20 for like $40 now. You can get them on ebay or at fleas/pawns for cheaper still.
They work a treat on DSLRs. Even canons!
