I'd like to pick up a good normal prime for my 30d. What does /p/ recommend?

28mm 2.8
28mm 1.8
35mm 2

Money is a big concern for me, right now i can't really afford the 28mm 1.8, i have the option of picking up the 28mm 2.8 for $100 or the 35mm for 220. Would I be dissapointed by not splurging for the 1.8 right away?

Thanks /p/, sorry for starting another gear thread.

I think I'd recommend going for the 28/2.8 of those options. I've got the 35/2.0 on my Rebel and it's a great lens, but I'd really prefer a 28 (both because I like my normal a bit wider than normal, and I love the 28mm field of view on film and full-frame digital). So if you're like me, you'll want to get the 28/1.8 *eventually*, and the 28/2.8 costs less *now* so you won't be out as much if you decide to switch later.

I second this. 28/2.8.

28mm F2.8 too

Personally, I have the 28mm 2.8 and it does a good job. I would like to have a 24mm because I'd just like it to be a little wider. I'm not even too sure if 4mm makes all the difference, but I would like to believe so.

I'd say this is /p/'s mascot now.

He's still holding the lens cap. How peculiar.

I'm guessing he either just lifted the camera and took the cap off, or didn't want it flapping around.

Me, what I do when I've got the strap wrapped around my hand like that, is tuck my dangling lenshood in around the strap, but it looks like he rode the strap higher up on his arm than I do. I just wrap it multiple times around my wrist, whereas it looks like he wrapped it around the whole length of his forearm.

(For anyone who hasn't tried the wrap-strap-around-arm way of holding a camera, do so. Perfectly responsive, makes the thing not just an extension of your eye but your hand, and impossible to steal without actually mugging you. Not out-of-the-way like over your shoulder, or even around your neck, but if you have a free hand, go for it.)

What, not Shoopboy?

I still say Cartier-Bresson. A dose of technical simplicity would do /p/ good.
