Hay /p/.This summer, I jammed my 18-55 Canon kit lens, and was told that it's a $200 repair for a $150 lens. I was never too fond of the lens anyway, shitty quality, not sharp at all, but am missing the wide-ness of it (my lowest that works right now is my 50mm 1.8).I'd like a lens that has somewhat of the same range as the 18-55, but won't break my budget. Probably under $250 is my limit, though I'd think about under $300 if the lens was really spiffy. Needs an EF-S mount, I'm using a 300D. I'd like it to be a relatively sharp lens, and wouldn't be opposed to something with a longer focal length as well. I'm pretty much looking for a decent walkabout all-purpose lens.Any suggestions? Get the IS counterpart. I'm not sure of the price in dollars though, but it's sharp and the IS is an added bonus.
yes, 18-55 IS is your only option at that price pointsave up and get the 17-40
Are there any Tamron, Sigma, etc. lenses at that price point that might be different?

sigma 17-70 is good if you're willing to add another $100
tamron 17-50, don't jam it.
Tamron 28-75 2.8 if you like it longer.
The newer 18-55 kit lens is supposed to have good optical quality for the price. IS is nice too and it is EF-S. You can get them new for around $160 online.
