I have one, I hear they were the best around in the 60s, tell me what you think
>> Anonymous
I think that, had they been the best around in the 60s, we would have actually heard of them. Enjoy your shitty offbrand Made in Thirdworldcountry crap.

LOL. You just don't know a lot about cameras.

Topcon was a major company, and is still very sought after. The lenses are of really good quality and really rare. Also the black body is quite rare. I recently sold one, including just one lens, for 400$. And it was in a lot worse condition then yours. You could easily get around $700, maybe more, depending on what lenses you have.
If you haven't noticed, the prism is removable.
These were the choice by the government to use in the US military for a long time, for their ruggedness.

I'd sell it if I were you though, lenses are hard to come by, and you could get a really nice Nikon set or whatever you like best.

>>278209
Bahahahaha you're an idiot

>>278220
Yeah you pretty much got it. I think they never really caught on in the US because of distributor issues (nobody would ever carry a Japanese camera without going through a third party at the time). They pretty much have the featureset of a Nikon F but they look cooler. Also Nikon has the bigger system.

Topcon is still around but they just do medical instruments now.
>> OP
OP here, I dunno if I want to sell it, even as much as its worth apparently, I still love it to death I mean I'm no professional but I enjoy using it. Its built like a rock and everything works as it should, some minor wear on the paint in the corners but that just reveals solid brass, amazing. Too bad the cost of film and developing keep adding up. Ive been shooting a roll I'll post a few when I get it on a cd this week perhaps

Everyone should know by now that I'd rather get trolled and type up an informative post than to just give a flippant remark. For one, someone might learn something, and also I'm not witty enough.

Oh wait it's /p/ we're not supposed to actually say anything constructive here i meant yuo r faget

BUT BUT BUT MY E-PEEN

>>278508
Actually I'm pretty sure the Topcons use the Exakta mount, which means there's quite a bit of German glass for them too.
>> Anonymous
>>278512
True that, but mounting Topcon lenses on exakta bodies rarely works.

>>278444
Then just enjoy using it, it's a lovely camera. Post pics when you can.

so I did some research
apparently the 20mm f4 I have on it in this pic is rather rare

Will you shoot manual a lot? Otherwise you'd really be better off selling this set and getting a better camera. It's a good camera, but sells for a lot due to collectors, not because it's so amazing.

Hexanon's one of the main names, if not the main brand that Konica called their lenses.

Hex meaning 6, maybe it's a 6 element lens design? (counting both sides of achromats etc).

You probably misunderstood what I meant when I said that "I do know that their names are often representative of a particular design or function". For example, summilux vs summicron vs summitar. I do know that in that case, the prefix is representative of their general aperture speed range. I don't know that for every brand and series, however.

TLDR: I'm not a compendium.

Are you the same old sage? You seem quite nitpicky.. from your responses to my previous posts as of late...

>>279129
I'm all for explaining what I know, if I have the time. I'm just wondering if you're seriously asking me for info or just trying to troll me.
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>279172
Hex-whatever was a general Konica brand name for camera equipment, hence Hexar lenses and the Hexar RF/AF cameras.

That there probably isn't six elements.

Only Leica grades their lenses by speed with names, and they didn't always do that in the past. Lens names actually tend to follow optical formulas, hence "Planar-type" lenses and other such descriptors.
>> Anonymous
Planar, tessar, sonnar, vario-tessar, vario-sonnar... I did say that up there, the leica example was just easy to bring up.
>> Anonymous
>>279233
>vario-tessar, vario-sonnar

These are just marketing names. The designs of all those Zeiss zooms are in no way related to the Tessar and Sonnar designs. Which isn't to say they're good or bad, just that they're not Tessars or Sonnars.
>> Anonymous
>>279237
Distagon, Planar, Biogon, do those sound better?
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>279250
It's not a matter of things sounding good, it's just that by convention a Sonnar refers to a lens with a cemented front triplet and a cemented rear triplet/doublet (oversimplified), and seeing other things sold under the Sonnar name is a little weird. I'm sure /p/ gets the same feeling when the Canon S5IS is marketed as a DSLR.

Its OP
Im back, its late but what the hell

200 speed rite aid brand film- is it really that shitty or are the differences between that and name brand 200 speed film even noticeable. I was ganna get slides but the only real camera shop is 40 miles away, and im a cheap ass college kid. pics look like they came out ok, maybe a little over exposed? let me know thanks
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>279352
The best kind of film is the cheapest kind of film, at least if you don't know the difference yet.
>> Anonymous
>279328
Okay, fair point, better be precise in what we're saying, that's fine. I see what you mean about Vario Sonnars not being the same as Sonnars etc, but what I said about a lens name or another "sounding better" was pretty much already a correction. As in "Fine, not Vario Sonnars or Vario Tessars. Biogon, Planar, Distagon, are you pleased?"

That said, I only ever meant to use them as examples. Perhaps my example wasn't precise enough.

PS: Even if Vario Sonnars are not formally Sonnars, can you deny that they're simply Vario Sonnars? What I mean is that even if it's not a true Sonnar, then it's just a different design they decided to call Vario Sonnar.

>>279352
all 200 speed film are stupid. get 100 or 400
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>279762
>>PS:

That would work if there was any sort of consistency between Vario-Sonnars but I don't think there is.
