Street photography! Any tips for good lighting, not spooking your subject, things like that?

Pic turned out nice by accident.

Good lighting - go when it's overcast

not spooking your subject - be a ninja

Having done a couple of contests on the River Walk in San Antonio I've found that, if you must, it is better to approach the subject and just ask. You could just say you're part of a local paper doing some stock photog. Make sure to take down their personal info if you do this.

The inverse and wrong way to do this is to do what a friend of mine did on one of the trips to this same contest. The event lines up with a cheerleading conference that has tons of especially young cheerleaders (with their massively fat moms, lulz). Friend took a shot of one of the really young ones and then ran like fuck thinking that he would seem creepy by taking the photo. Obviously, this only made him seem creepier.
