I just bought a new DSLR but I don't have a lens filter for it. Should I wait until I buy one or start using the camera without it?

buy filters if you think youl use them, theres no time to buy them just do it if you want. ive had my camera since xmas and ive yet to get any filters, in fact ive only recently thought about getting some ND filters.
maybe pick up some 10 dollar circular polarizes from wal mart to use as protection for your front piece of glass

nothing short of sand particles and you running a cloth on it will scratch your lens' front element

and dust is never a fucking issue unless you're shooting at f/8 and above

They take off around 1.5 or 2 stops, depending on the filter (just variation in brands). This loss of light is a constant, however; it does not change depending on how heavy you polarize.
