Baby needs some love Anonymous
So I have a Zenit 12XP.
As you can see from the pic, the lens is in need of a good cleaning.
How would I go about this?
Sorry about the crappy photography, I'm not a good cameraman at the best of times.

It has a built in light meter, which should be handy, once I figure out how to put the batteries in.
As far as I can figure out, the cover was glued on.

I'm thinking that I should simply take those four screws out from the bottom of the lens.
Bad or good idea?

Just tried now. Top cover came off but after that all the screws where too tight to even budge. I even tried multi-grips but to no avail.
Oh, and if I didn't make it clear enough, the lens has fog in it.

battery most likely goes in the compartment next to the viewfinder on the left. It also probably takes mercury batteries.
>>45390
wut, don't take apart lenses
I'm not familar with this one but it looks like every other M42-mount third party clone.

The batteries do indeed go in that compartment, those batteries on the table came out of it. I just can't figure out how the cover goes on, I think it was glued there.

It's a M42 thread mount, yeah. Made by Soligor.
It has water in it, what do I do about it?

Throw it away, get a new lens?

Water in the lens for as long as there's probably been water in that lens has probably destroyed it...

Poor Russian Leica copy is fail. They're notoriously unreliable and terrible. If you want a cheap entry point into the Leica M mount, get a Voigtlander Bessa T. They're attractive, mechanically solid, and what's even better: modern and supported! Only like $200 for a body, too. And that's new. Used, it's anyone's guess.

The 15mm Heliar superwide is pretty sexy looking, too. Widest rectilinear lens ever made, apparently. Get yourself a Summicron and you're good to go.

I have a Zenit - my first camera, and it served me very well, although I was far from a great photographer.

it's a poor russian spotmatic copy :P
Voigtlander has a solution for this, too. Their recent spotmatic clone is really nice.

Taken with my Zenit in 2003. It never failed me.

theres a 12-24mm sigma Rectilinear lens, though thats a 35mm lens, so it might not be as wide if the format of the film is greater...

I didn't buy it. Got it off a friend. I was just wondering how to fix it up is all.

The fog has cleared up now.
