Ok /p/, I need your help.

I have a Nikon D80 that I got about a year ago. Still use the kit 18-135 lens but also picked up a 50mm f1.4 along the road. Now I'm looking to invest again.

A friend of mine shoots canon and has their 24-70mm, and after looking at photos taken with it I realized that I could never possibly get photos of that quality with my current equipment.

I can't afford Nikon's equivalent of the lens, but I'd like to get something at around $500 that will give me more clarity and sharpness than my current lens. I realize it probably won't compare to those $1,000 24-70mm ones, but as long as it's better than what I've got.

Other stuff like VR would be nice, but I'm not picky, I have a tripod after all. Any suggestions?

for the d80, get the tamron 17-50 2.8, it's 25-75mm equiv on the D80 and will get grat quality pics,

obviously remember to stop down to f/5.6-f/8 to get the best out of that lens.

And it's less than 1000, abour 500 or something US?

You probably dont take good enough pictures to warrent buying a 500$ lens. Just saying

OP here, something I completely forgot to mention. I'd like to avoid digital only lenses if possible

the 18-55 kit lens is much sharper than your 18-135, it's 125 bucks.

get a 50mm prime. sharper than almost any zoom, cheap as shit.

get an old manual focus lens. they'll work just fine on your d80, and a lot of them were extremely sharp, and most are under 300 bucks.

He said he owns a 50mm f1.4 and that should be enough of a lens to give you 'clarity and sharpness'.

you could get the 18-55 VR
