Where do you guys get your prints from? I know anyone can print their own (digital) crap with a printer, or develop their own (black and white) film, but even then you guys must have a favorite developer/printer for large or important stuff you don't want to ruin.

I'm sure the answers will vary, but I'd like to hear them all ("this place does my black and whites best, but they suck at color" "this place does film well but sucks for digital prints" etc.).

I'd guess snapfish would be good since well. . lots of printers are going to be using HP's equipment to begin with. But I won't assume anything, they could suck (particularly at developing).

My favourite one vanished. :(

That's a shame. Not many people print off their stuff now. You might be interested to hear that some of the domestic photo printers work quite well now. I bought one for my sister as a present and the prints she is getting are better than the ones she was getting from her local Boots and supermarkets. The technology has improved a lot and got cheaper.

Well I'm new to photography, so I've never printed anything. But it seems a waste to get an SLR and a nice lens (I have a 50mm 1.4 coming to replace the kit lens which is 5.6 at 50mm where I like to shoot. . eugh) and then just print crap off the printer. I don't mind paying for quality prints that a consumer printer just can't get, even if they're just going into a portfolio to look at for my own enjoyment.

Would be nice to know where one gets their photos printed on good heavy archival paper for framing, especially.

Before i think about printing im going to have to start shooting in raw.

I never do specific shoots for print so im not really bothered when i do go to get something done that boots isnt the best, it has a reasonably priced 1hr service.

a lot of people print straight from jpeg. i think the real problem is that you're using a sony alpha.

If I ever plan to rob a bank or commit a crime I will be sure to become a Sony fanboy first, just to spite you. I'll wear the Sony gear at the time too. Enjoy your persecution. <3

School's darkroom for B+W film, Agfa paper while it lasts, but I'll eventually need to buy some Ilford (which I think is better, actually, just more expensive)

I might get a bunch of shit done through mpix at some time, but I prefer just keeping my digital pics on the computer.

I don't print, either, since monitors have more dynamic range than any photographic paper.
