Sup /p/ and britfags here?

I was thinking about taking a photography course or joining a photography club as the college I'm at has no photography course.

I'm looking into a city and guilds course, you do a few hours a week for a year and at the end of it you sit an exam and pretty well recognised qualifactions, and it costs around £200.

Has anyone taken any courses like this and is worth the money/time/effort?

britfag here, I've not done one of these courses but I do know that city and guilds qualifications looks pretty good on your CV

clubs around here are usually just gear whoring clubs, where the most money wins the most respect.
Pictures come in a distant second place. Being a loner and doing your own research is what I did,
though now I always have people who want to go out shooting with me, but they are interested in taking pictures, not in talking about camera equipment.

Theres also photographic associations and whatnot, but all they do is create a sort of pyramid hierarchy, in which you have to spend money to get respect within the organization. The higher up you go the more contacts you are supposed to get (ironic that at the top you are the contact other people pay to get access to)

It can be good to access a group fund of lights / lenses sometimes, but not all clubs are soo lenient with new younger members.

LOL thats my favourite shopping centre in the UK.

Afflecks FTW, no where else in Britain can you find rave gear, dress shirts and Military helmets in the same shop.

You may wish to find ONE of them...

This place is a massive bizarre of crazy clothes and music. I'll post some photos from within at some point...

yeah man afflecks on oldham street, it was gonna get closed down, rent too high, capatalism etc.

but some massive campaign happened and now its all been re-done up and shit, northern quarter is such a great place for photography, apart from the odd crack head.

Aflecks?

Liverpool had Quiggins till the City Council decided to knock it down and build another thousand "upmarket fashion stores" (and a starbucks) so 1/2 of the stores dissapeared when the new Grand Central opened.

Liverpool is better anyway :P

As for Guilds, i've never heard of them, if they're goverment assisted you can pretty much guarentee they suck.

As a photog i really like L1, as a weirdo I like the new park as the city centre had _no_ greenery in it for me to be in. As a marginally intelligent person I dont see how building a massive shopping complex during obvious (and it have been for some time) economic instability.

The City & Guilds thing looks fine if you need actual training to do a job (like solder pipes) but since I have a real job i've never been in contact with it nor expect too. As for courses in photography, just spend a few hours a week on /p/ and at the end of the year you'll be better than Ken Rockwell!

Controversial, it WOULD be if they ever rebuiltit after the war.

Seriously, it always looks like a 1000 pounder just hit it. Although Kudos for the tate gallery...
