Dear /p/.
I'd like to buy an M42 adapter for my Minolta SLR.
However, I don't know what to trust. All I see are cheap knock-offs. Any specific adapter / brand recommended? Or just go with the knock off looking stuff?

Fotodiox makes decent cheap knock-offs. As for Chinese adapters on scambay, try reading the feedback page for the seller (although that guarantees nothing; the quality may vary from batch to batch)

MD/MC or Maxxum AF?

You can go for a cheap knock-off, it's just an adapter

You do realize that if the adapter is even a half mm deeper or not into the body would render it useless? It has to have the right focal point.

With the EOS-M42 ones I've had or seen mentioned there is a lot of variability and some are useless while others are perfect. It's well worth reading up on that particular one before buying.
