arite lissen.

it is impossible to get comments out of you folks. i mainly am interested in /p/ to talk about the characteristics of photographs and not just look at other ppls work but lots of good pics just don't get bumped. i cant tell if anyone likes any of my schtuff or not. if you guys can't offer any conversation, where can i go to post pics and get comments from other people who are interested in photography and not just *pictures*?

also as a last stab at salvaging my stay here, there are many of these frog statues in my town all with different colors and styles. should i take more like this? well i will anyway but does anyone want to see them?

It looks like it was shot with a camera phone honestly. And it's a pretty boring subject and composition as a whole. Little frog statues around your town don't make for interesting photographs, especially when you just walk up to one and take a dead-on snap shot of it. There are also some ugly photoshop-looking blur spots in it and the whole thing looks out of focus.

One good thing is you at least put the frog off to the side which makes it one step above straight noob. The only problem is the background behind it is not interesting color, or shape-wise. Your depth of field is too deep so the street or whatever back there just looks busy and accidental.

>it looks like it was shot with a camera phone
>it's the pgotographer not the camera

you need to make up your minds.

this WAS taken with a crappy camera. but anyway since i obviously can't get any critique that i don't beg for here, does anyone know of a place i can go to use as a learning tool or do i have to take an epic google journey?

4chan not your personal army, or something.

There's a huge black streak separating right part from the left. You could try exposing it more, but then parts would get overexposed. Which is why the "shitty camera" argument is valid, because a) it probably doesn't allow manual exposure control, and b) even if it did, I doubt it could capture such a wide contrast anyway, without either over- or underexposing. Apart from that, the bg is messy and distracting, and the composition borrring.

Good luck with your search.

okay one last question about this one before i go try to improve. what exactly ABOUT the frog is boring? is it not aesthetically pleasing? are the colors not vivid and attractive?

i don't like the down-the-street view of this either but when i took it agaisnt the wall so there'd be a better sense of line, the sun's glare ruined she shot.

The frog is too obvious. It's something that was specifically made to be gawked at so if you try to make an artful photo of it, it's just going to look like a straight documentary shot. It's like taking pictures of your stupid anime figurines. They may look awesome to you but but nobody else cares about them. A good photo should be compelling. It should tell a story that is interesting and engaging. This just says to us, "Here's a frog statue on a pole with some ugly sidewalk or whatever behind it because that's just what was there."

i see. i guess i thought the opposite. there's so much frog crap in my boring town that stuff like this never sticks out to me. the bridge you have to cross to get here has 4 giant stone frogs on its 4 corners and there's a shop that sells just frog stuff. it was only after walking up and down main street like a thousand times that i suddenly realized that there was a sort of themed progression of these very particular statues and what i liked about them was how unnoticable they are even though as statues they're supposed to be seen and looked at. i guess i didn't think that that wouldn't come through to anyone who doesn't live here for some reason.

well thanks for the insight you could spare fellows. off i run for now. one day i may return less noobish.

not to mention that, from a judging/critique/whatever standpoint, it's tough to take photos of someone else's art.
You've got to do twice as much work, otherwise it just looks as if you're documenting their piece.
