Hi there, I am here seeking help as to good cameras and which ones to stay clear of.

I am looking to purchase a digital camera for use with studio photography, taking photographs for brochures and of course, personal use. Something 'professional'. Unfortunately my knowledge of cameras is limited and I'd hate to dish out 600 on a camera only to realise it's shit or something.

That brings me onto my budget. I'd rather not spend too much on a camera but will be prepared to if it will last me for years and pay for itself. So lets say, 500-800 EUROS would be my budget.

Sorry if you get shit like this all the time, I'll admit I don't come here that often.

I have a manual film camera but my course work requires a lot of work with computers and developing a flim and then scanning them in is a hassle and I've never developed a film without scratches.

Besides digital is a lot easier for me.

nikon D80
and get the nifty fifty
(50mm prime lens)
good in low lighting conditions cheap, and sharp good for portraits.

that should cost around 700-800 euros, and then you upgrade shit in the future as well such as a nice external flash, more lenses etc.

50mm on that body is a no no.

Just go with a D80, or Canon price equiv.
Basically all cameras made today by Nikon & Canon are of decent quality.

I've heard things around my class about the Canon EOS not being recognised by their PCs or something. Is that anything to worry about with Nikon or Canon?

They need to learn to read fucking manuals. You have to install some drivers/applications to download your pictures from the camera. Additionally, that same software also lets you control your camera from your computer.

You're safe with a D80 & kit lens to be honest op.
You can pick them up fairly cheaply. (£380~)

I recently got the D80 upgraded from the D40. Mine came with the 18-55VR, while not covering the widest range it seems to give much better results than the 18-55 from the D40, I'll probably get the 18-200 and then a decent prime, a wideangle and thats all I'll need to suit all situations.

Without starting a new topic which lenses would you reccommend? The 18-200 covers most ranges I will be using, and then I was looking at the sigma 30 1.4 and the 10-20mm

get the nikon 35 f/2 instead, but the sigma 10-20 is fucking awesome
