Got a Pentax K10, need a new lens Anonymous
Camera is solid, but the kit lens turned out to be pretty iffy, want something less cheap that I can use for macro shots and portraits, please help me out and give me some recommendations.

nice thing about pentax is you can use lenses all the way back from the 70s with little to no problem. manual focus, of course, but there's some fantastic lenses throught the history of the kmount. I remember having a kickass 28mm, i think it was a 1.4, or a 2, on my pentax ME and that lens was great, and you could probably find such lenses for peanuts compared to newer, fancier, autofocus lenses.

sure, manual focus is a bit of a bother, but quality glass at bargain prices is nothing to sneeze at.

Cool tapes, I will keep an eye out for those. Thanks.

1)
Pentax FA 50mm F/1.4 is fantastic, but I also us a Tamron 28-75mm F/2.4 for portrait distances.

2)
I would recommend saving up to buy a separate macro lens if you want something better than 1:4 magnification.

3)
For the k10d older lenses have to support automatic aperture or else they'll work poorly. Look for A or FA lenses.

Go manual and buy a cheap Pentax-M 50mm f/1.7 Great lens, hard to go wrong with it. No automatic aperture, but that shouldn't be much of a bother.

I want a f/2.4 zoom too!
