Finding a camera Anonymous
Hey /p/, I'm going on a long-term trip and I need to find a good digital camera under $200 (as good as a camera that price range can be. I'm cheap, I know, but hey, I'm a student...) that doesn't blur too badly when not using flash, so I can take pictures in museums, etc. The size is a little important but not vital.

I know there are probably a lot of these threads, but thanks for your help!

It's film but it's the best thing you can buy new, if you want a digital you'll have to settle for something like this

Biggest crap recommendations ever.

If you're going on a trip, you might as well have a compact p&s. But any compact camera doesn't do low-light very well. I've taken decent pictures inside museums before. All it really takes is proper form.

Canon SD750
Canon Powershot A-series

The standard /p/ advice for which Point & Shoot camera to get is a PowerShot A-Series. My recommendation would be the PowerShot A630 ($170, last I checked), which has a relatively large (1/1.8") sensor, more resolution than you'll actually need, a nice flip-out screen, and a decent (35-140mm equiv) zoom. There's also the A650 IS, which gives you a longer telephoto (35-210mm equiv) and image stabilization, but costs $300 (i.e., not much less than a used SLR).

There's also the A570 IS for around $140 (which gives you image stabilization, but smaller sensor, which means likely a bit more noise in low light, and doesn't have the nice swivel screen of the A630). I wouldn't really recommend it, though. You lose a lot for that extra thirty bucks.

If you don't need manual controls, the rest of the PowerShot line opens up to you. But I don't care about digital cameras without manual controls, so I haven't bothered to research 'em.

Yes, I know this post sounds like absurdly high levels of canonfaggotry, but it gets asked a lot so I decided to do the research.

Not really. Canon Powershot is above Nikon Coolpix, Sony DSC, Fujifilm Finepix, and many other compact P&S's out there. And that's coming from a D80 wielding Nikonfag.

Yeah, but people accuse me of being a canonfag when I respond to a question with something like "I personally prefer Canons, but you might also want to consider the Nikon system..." so I thought I'd throw that in to deflect that somewhat.

'Course, I've already seen this reposted by someone else since the first time I posted it the other day, so there will probably come a time when nobody remembers that I wrote it originally... :)

Sorry off topic, but OP do you have any more shots of the Hagia Sophia? I'm doing a project on it, and your shot looks a lot better than what I've been working with.
