Another bloody gear thread Martin !!ve2Q1ETWmJH
I've been looking for a while a way to dump my images onto some sort of storage device directly as I shoot. there are loads of 'tanks' out there, but £200~ is alot of money purely for 100+gb of hd.

I came across this, which is a WIRELESS SD CARD that transmittes photos from the camera directly to a pc. Sounds amazing in my opinion, really useful etc.

For £40, don't see how I can go wrong, as the alternatives for my D80 would be atleast 3x the price.

Does anyone have any experience with these little gadgets? This is the first time I've ever heard of them.

I heard that these can't transmit RAW

Only useful if you're in the same room as your PC and at that point, you can just take the card out of the camera, dump them to the PC then put the card back in the camera and get shooting again.

I don't know where he got it but a friend of mine has an Image tank that's just a drive enclosure and a card reader which means he bought a 2.5" drive separately and it came out cheaper altogether.

I'm planning to use it for studio use, to project the just taken photo - onto a screen to show the subject as I shoot.
If it cannot transfer Raw then its basically useless for me.

They can be pretty good if you want to transfer to a laptop nearby and stuff. Great invention.

Seeing as Canon charge hundreds for their wireless grip, this thing is pretty awesome.

too bad the eye-fi transmits jpegs only. no raw support.

My friend from>>192794just hooks up his camera to his PC via a long USB cable and uses Nikon Camera Control Pro to automatically transfer the files from the cache to the PC after taking a shot where he can view it on a bigger screen.

Before that, he just used his video output which transmitted whatever was on the LCD to a screen nearby.

And the Eye-fi is marketed to facebook hipsters with P&S's who tangle wires. Think helpless mac users from their earlier ads.

Heh.

Well, the idea was to keep my mini-studio as wire-free as possible. Switching to PocketWizards etc.

Will probably end up upgrading to the D300 and buying the Vertical-Grip style Nikon WiFi Transmitter. Only thing thats stopping me from this is the fact that im rather low on cash.
