Xt and xti are so poorly built.

im not a faggot.

a 5d would be a waste for mediocre photography.

the 20d is an excellent camera that you can get relatively cheap used. go for that and get some nice glass with the future in mind.

20D = ~450 used
30D = ~650 used

About a 200 dollar difference. They have the same sensor, and the about the only differences are the LCD size, autofocus, and burst buffer. You decide.

And a spot meter.

wait 20d doesn't have a spot meter? Fuck

*cancels eBay bids*

Seriously, this is a feature that finds everyday use on my point & shit
>> Anonymous

I had that impression when I first handled an XTi. It just seemed so...cheap. Now, I know they take very nice photos...I was just surprised at how shitty it looked and felt.

Noob here.

What's the deal with the lens in the OP? Why does it look so large in diameter?
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>184611
Because it really is that big, to let in more light. That's not even a big lens if you're going to talk supertelephotos and so on.
>> Anonymous
>>184611
Go to a store and try 85/1.2L... and drop it.
Fast primes kick ass.
>> Anonymous
>>184611

It's an 85mm f/1.2...you need a hueg piece of glass for that kind of aperture at that focal length...and for just about any focal length for that matter.
>> Depressed Cheesecake !wFh1Fw9wBU
85 and 50 L's are great, but on a crop body, they kind of lose their touch.
>> Anonymous
>>184683
Because the relative loss of EV that comes from using fullframe really makes those fast lenses shine, right?
>> Depressed Cheesecake !wFh1Fw9wBU
>>184685
Funny. It's actually because 136mm isn't the greatest size for portraiture.

I got a used 20D with 18-55 IS, 50mm 1.8 and a 2gb CF card for 600 bucks.

go for it
>> Anonymous
hey guys, I have an xti + grip and it's still too small for my meaty hands. (total expense $500)

I have to the option to go for a 30d for $550.

Should I go for it? My xti has some wear, but works great, a little scratch on the lcd, nothing major.
>> Anonymous
OP, the 50mm 1.8 is just as good as the 1.4 (unless you're a resolution nigger) and costs less than half the money.

I could EAT my 1.8 and willingly buy another one.
>> NatureGuy !se3A3TwzdY
30D is a great camera

Now I've never used a 20D but for 200$ the would be worth it to get a 30D over the 20D. Refer to: http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=299&cpage=9&perpage=15&cat=15
#poststart for more details in that regards

50mm on a 1.6 crop body comes out to 80mm, kinda boring. Poke around the EF-S lenses available for it but sure to read the reviews on them. Some of the EF-S lenses are terrible while others have close to L grade glass but not construction.

The 20-40D series were made for amateurs becoming pro-sumers and professions who could use the extra reach created by the crop, keep that in mind when looking.

>50mm 1.8 is just as good as the 1.4
Except the fact the 1.4 lets in almost twice as much light, has an ultrasonic motor and better build quality.
>> Anonymous
>>184764Except the fact the 1.4 lets in almost twice as much light

i love your math
>> Anonymous
>>184785
I don't see how it's flawed...

if your camera moves in stops of 1/3rds, the 1.4 is 2/3rds away from 1.8, which is only 1/3rd stop away from 1.2. So really, it does almost let twice as much light in.
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m
