i has a question. lower film speeds give better color, right? but I have a toy camera that has a fixed shutter speed. so, will I get better color using 100 iso and probably underexposing, or should I use 200 or 400 iso to get a better exposure?

A toy camera won't give you great color depth and saturation anyways. Go with the 200/400.

Get the best exposure you can. Hell, you could shoot provia 400 or something and get nice saturation and contrast on top of being a correct exposure.

That depends, do you have control over the aperture at least? If so, what range are you provided with?

ok thanks, ill use the 200/400.

it has an aperature, but it's very primative. it is basically a wheel with a slit that gets wider at one end and rotates behind the shutter. it says f6-16 but I wouldn't trust it. not the greatest but I got it for $1 and my other camera leaks light.

Time? As in the magazine?

Since when were magazines in the toy camera business?
>> sage !i/euDJmWr2
>>174726
since the middle of the 20th century, maybe? Readers Digest sold a knock-off Diana yearsss ago.

Lots of businesses sold (or gave away) little toy cameras like that. McDonalds was giving away a little 110 camera in happy meals for a while back in the 80s.
>> fence !!POey2hdozCZ
the irony is that TIME then started publishing stuff taken by pro journalists shot on toy cameras a decade or two later. guess you really can shoot like the pros!

Holy shit is that you my brother?

My toy camera is just like that one dude. Same aperture system and everything, but probably not the same make obviously.

I'd suggest you grab 100 instead, not 200. These cameras are usually timed for a shutter speed of around 1/100s. Grab 200 and most of your shots are likely to be overexposed.

With an F6 to F16 range, it seems like it's pretty much a "sunny 16 camera".

fixed shutter speed
fixed lens
semi-fixed aperture
hot shoe accessory

one of these does not belong

Indeed! Even on mine>>174820, it's completely dysfunctional. It's pretty much a decoration.

Is it the hot shoe? Because a standard hot shoe is dead simple to implement. The only reason cheap cameras nowadays don't have 'em is for aesthetic and marketing reasons.

How, ac? Have a link I can use? I'm considering it for this whole DIY camera thing I've mentioned.
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
>>174854
Basically, it's just
1. Two metal contacts. The little circle in the middle, and the rest of the hot shoe.
2. Switch that connects 'em together in a circuit when the shutter fires

It's like not even Electrical Engineering 101. It's the stuff you're just assumed to understand before you get to EE101.

Okay, I did understand that (thing about 2 electrical contacts) beforehand, but I assumed that maybe it had to be timed specifically at some point after the shutter is fired, or the actual hotshoe needs to be connected to a battery or something. Thinking a little more about it, sync shouldnt be a problem if I'm just shooting at 1/100 anyways, right?

I... actually don't know. And that's a good question. So I'd recommend googling it.

>>174917
I looked a bit into it, but couldn't find much in the little time I spent. What I'd like to avoid is having black bars on a frame because of the shutter not being synced. I'll look into it later anyways, thx though

Ken Rockwell has a decent writeup on how flashes and shutters interact. tldr version is that it depends on how fast your shutter curtains are moving.

Thanks dude, I'll look it up
