i tried lurking before i posted but i didn't quite find what i was looking for.

i don't own a digital camera of my own anymore (i've always just borrowed from friends) and i think it's about time i got my own...

unfortunately, i really only have up to about $200 to spend, and i would like to buy a camera sometime before March.

i'm getting the general impression that Canon is preferred, but could anyone recommend to me a camera that would cost ~$200 and be worth it?

thank you. :)

here's some cereal.

For something in that price range, yeah, go for canon. A or G series is win.

what's the difference between A and G? haha, i'm sorry...

i'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to purchasing cameras.

G is more win than A

but A is more win than whatever else Canon has

G is like a pro's p&s. It even has a hotshoe so you could mount an external flash on it. But it would look pretty ridiculous to me. A is like your consumer grade p&s. It's durable, reliable and great for a casual user.

Canon consumer stuff is probably better than most other brands at the moment. I'd probably go with them just because they off 4x optical zoom whereas some others like Nikon only offer 3x for approximately the same price.
