hey guise, I have always enjoyed photography and have been very good with regular point and click, but i would like to move on to something more professional. I would like to do portraits and stock photography for a start. I am amateur but a very fast learner and would like my starting camera to be advanced enough, take professional pictures.

tl;dr: I dont know shit about photography and want to learn to take professional photos with a good starting camera

Dear Anonymous,

I care not about the fact that you are buying a new dslr nor do I about you, but I will offer this small piece of advice. Try both of them and see which you are more comfortable with. Don't let /p/ decide for you. After you have done this.... buy a Nikon D40 w/18-200VR + sb-600

love,

Playing the underdog card in your ads is so lame.

Oooohh let's root for the small company because they're probably like us real people instead of the big 2. What a wise decision!

SUCH A KAWAII COMPANY
>> Anonymous
In all seriousness, it's pretty coward and low blow of Pentax to play that angle.

"You know what? We can't beat the big 2 and we're not REALLY trying to. No, we're talking to you little guy, yes, you. You don't need that big fancy system from the big 2, our products are good enough for you, because we understand YOU. Please buy your product"

So lame, Pentax.

I have the XTi (400d) and the 17-55 2.8 ... I'm happy with it, I will be buying a few more lenses before I upgrade the body.

nikon d90 awesome as shit, fwiw video
olympus e-3 awesome as shit, weather seals, rock solid, unfortunatley little sensor
pentax k20d awesome as shit, weather seals, shake reduction in body
canon 50d awesome as shit, people will think you are badass for owning a canon
>> Anonymous
it does, Pentax body is compatible with all pentax lens, which you can't say about canon.

canon is compatible with all lenses

If I intended to buy one body and never upgrade ever, I would get Pentax.

But I want to keep on growing in a good system, I'll go with Nikon or Canon.

Fail, the EF mount is compatible with old M42 lenses from Pentax or anyone else, but the EF mount is not compatible with the K-mount. The EF-S mount is.
