I don't know if this is the place to ask, but I've been having some problems with my camera and I can't find any info on it. I have a Pentax K100D and I recently took some pictures. I wanted to get them on my computer, but whenever I plug it into the USB port it either says that the power limit on the hub has been exceeded or it just doesn't show it as connected. Anyone have a remedy to this problem or any info about it? Thanks.

can you plug the camera cable straight into the computer instead of the hub?

mac or pc?

PC
I'm plugging it right into the USB port on the front of the computer.

USB has a maximum power limit for powering devices. It seems that either the camera's USB is too much or your motherboard/hub is too weak. Take the card out and use a card reader or try the USB ports at the back.

Get a card reader, there cheap and the transfer times are alot faster

Looks like you have a shitty computer. Forget the card reader (which is a hassle and takes up precious USB ports) and buy a PC with an integrated media card reader. You were thinking about buying a new one anyway.

Usb provides 500mA at 5V, just FFR

An integrated media reader-
A: Takes up USB headers on the motherboard anyway
B: Is in no way portable, what if the op wanted to use a laptop on location or something of that ilk? Besides, most desktop pcs nowadays have plenty of usb ports, and the op obviously has one spare, otherwise they couldn't plug in the camera's cable!

My advice, pop down to your local electronics store and buy an SD card reader, it's basically a little dongle about 2 inches long that has a slot for your card on one end, and a male usb connector on the other. it shouldn't cost any more than about $10

are transfer times really that much faster with a card reader?
it takes me WAY to long to transfer like 100 or so HQ JPGS and my RAW files, i hate it.

Mine is from Teac (FD-CR7) and a mix between floppy and 7in1 card-reader, though I can't find a shop that still has it in stock at the moment.
IIRC there was an identical one from Mitsumi.

Maybe look here for a suitable one.
