This is a gear thread, but one that's supposed to actually make you think about your photography.

If you could have any film or digital SLR body (let's keep this to SLRs to avoid repetitive "Leica Mx" "35 Lux/28 Cron/ OMG NOCTILUX" answers, although I'd take the M8 and 35 Summilux myself) what would it be and why?

If you could have any five lenses, as your only lenses? Four? Three? Two? One? And why?

I'll answer later on in the thread. Pic related only in that decisionmaking is involved.

I'm inclined to say Leica M6 with a Noctilux 1.0, if I were to deem photography simply my hobby and something I enjoy for myself. (Just for fun, not work)

Considering work and otherwise...

I guess a Canon 5D (or newer equivalent) with a 50 1.4 or a mounted Zeiss T* Planar 50 1.4 (or was it 85 1.4? I honestly cant remember that one, but an old zeiss prime for that matter). For long range, 70-200 F4IS, since it's razor sharp but only half as heavy as the 2.8.
Sigma 12-24 for full frame, widest rectilinear lens out there, and some consider it to be on par with primes. Also add in a 35mm, either 1.4L or the oldie F2.

I'm not your buddy, guy.

After typing that, I think now and kinda realize I'm really not looking forward to using a 1Ds Mk45. (Maybe if work ever gets to call for it). They're too big and I'm weak.

i don't know if i can keep it to SLRs. i mean, i'd love a 5d with a 28mm prime, when i shot 35mm i only ever used a 28 prime.

i use a pentax 6x7 right now, and it's great but i'd rather have a mamiya 7ii with a 65 f4 and a 45 f4, but that is a rangefinder, so. i don't know.

I've never had the chance to use a Mamiya, are those really nice? (also, 35mm or medium format in the ones you mentioned)

what makes this shitty gear thread any better than any of the other gear threads?
