technically this picture suffers because:

your lens does not focus as close as you have it to your glasses. the image is soft also because you didn't set your camera to be sensitive enough to the low light in your room. ISO400 didn't cut it for this particular case.

I would recommend trying to think out of the box-- instead of arranging still lifes inside, on the table, or on the floor- take things outside, work a necklace into the grass, put it under water, etc. Try to experimenting with light a bit more, and DOF- focusing and color.

Practice practice practice!
