I suggest you don't do it in the first place.

I'll never understand why a camera or lens that is slightly bad will be hated but a camera that is truly awful is LOVED. It is stupid.

It is complete garbage. It is overpriced. Don't buy it. Get a nice second hand camera somewhere.

It's kind of like bad movies. Like they're so bad that they come around again on the other side to good.

A boring, mediocre movie is just dull. But a trainwreck like Plan 9 From Outer Space is win.

Additionally, there's something to be said for learning to work within the limitations of a shittastic camera. Not being able to rely on things like wideangles, low DoF, close focusing, etc to make your shots look good makes you focus (so to speak) entirely on composition, framing, and finding good light.

Alternately you could just take regular photos with your digital camera and spend 5 mins in photoshop making them look shitty.

It's just not the same. Can't explain quite why, but it's not.

I can understand how it's different if you're developing the film yourself and making c-prints from the negs but if you're just mailing your film to a processing place then there's not much of a difference.

Part of the 'fun' of a shitty camera is that you cannot expect anything, while by shooping there's just no fun, since nothing is random. And even if you could make it random, you could just repeat till you get what you like.

Though I still recommend to get ANY shitty 1$ point and shoot at a flea market. They'll do the same.

Seconding this. Extra points if that cheapass old camera you pick up actually turns out to be awesome.

Seriously, nobody has anything against Lomo's products. They're just way overpriced and overhyped.
