How would you take pictures of the moon? I've seen ways people attach their telescopes to their cameras, but what's the "official" way to do it?

Also, i just bought a Minolta 75-300 f/4.5-5.6 D. I'm happy about that. In before "sony/KM sucks"

A mirror lens (at 1000+ mm equivalent focal length) is a cheap solution. It's not easy to focus, though, unless your camera has a xbox hueg viewfinder or live view.

There is no "official" way. You do what you can to get the results you want.

I'm still trying to get clear pictures through my telescope. These are my Jupiter (fail) attempts.

That is nothing to be ashamed of for Jupiter shots.

sup KM person.

The moon moves a lot faster than you think, you cant expose for long if you dont have a moving mount. I think you can only get 1-2s exposure without one so you need a bright moon and a wide open apeture to get the light in.

otherwise look at mounts for taking star pictures etc which rotate automatically to stop the blur and alow MUCH longer exposure.

OP here

i suppose when i get back to school i'm going to try to find the photo club on campus (There's gotta be one. it's a large state university).

I also plan on going out to the pedestrium one night with my 300mm (450mm dslr amirite?) and playing around with it.

The moon is also quite bright, so it doesn't need 2 second exposures unless you use some mad narrow aperture. The image above was shot at 1/50s f/5.6 ISO 200.

This was taken with just my Fujifilm S5700 at 10x. I used a 4 second shutter speed and I don't think it blurred too bad.

Wow what do you know I forgot how I shot my own picture... :/ I figured since it was a night moon shot I woulda gone for it all but now that I remember when I was shooting it, it was too bright and was just whiting out in my pictures so I had to step down the shutter speed. Still though not a bad picture I thought for that camera.

So do I just get some telephoto and hope for the best or do I actually have to get out of the city?

I know my moon picture isn't the best but it was taken looking right over a Target parking lot with big lights lol. I think the moon should be pretty visible no matter where you are.
