Every year a manufactured home company hosts a trick or treat event for the kids, and they are more fantastic every year, these are my favorites.

trailers or McMansions?
>> Anonymous
McMansions really. They're quite nice on the inside... jacuzzi tubs, track lighting, vaulted ceilings. Some of them even have real drywall inside ^_^!

Shadows all over the kid and his clothing is underexposed, use a flashfill. Plus, tilt down a bit to fill the frame better, the headroom is uncomfortable.

>>282319

Same thing with headroom, plus 1/4000sec exposure time? Really? Decrease the aperture size and get a little more detail around the edges. Also, the sky is pretty white, maybe artificially edit it to a light blue.

The point of the gun is killing me, get a better depth of field next time, you don't need to shoot at 1/320sec for such a still subject. I would've repositioned myself about a foot to the left and asked the kid to look my way, you'll get a better background without the white line at the left.

I really like what you're trying to do, this sort of simple shooting-people-being-people thing is awesome. But it just doesn't really come together here; primarily, you need to learn to manage and use context around your subject.

>>282318
Here you've got a lot of background that's just *there.* Find something in the scene you can use to add to or complement what you're saying about the subject.

These don't really include any context, they're just the people, and it's not like some Avedon thing where you've just stripped it down to just them so we can focus on the person. Include some symbol or some context that says something about the subjects of your portraits.

Also, the guy saying to stop down is right. You don't even have any background to blur here, take it to f/5.6 or whereever the lens performs best. Even if you did, you probably would want to include more of it than f/1.8 would.

Lastly, all of these look like they could benefit from from processing, at least some auto-levels in PS. They look flat.

OP Here, thanks for all of the constructive, non "boring" critiques.

I just got my nifty fifty, and I figured out earlier today that having a wider aperture means OMG LIGHT, so I need to manage that better.

It was still a fun day, nonetheless :)
