Hello!
My dad just bough Olympus E410

Was that a good choise?
>> Anonymous
No.
Kill it with fire.
>> Anonymous
And anyone seriously?
>> Anonymous
Does it take pictures?
If so it's perfect.

Same poster as previous.
Serious this time.
It's an entry level camera.
Cost him what, all of 400$ tops?
If it works, it was a good choice.
Does it work?
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
1. put pancake lens(es) on it
2. ???
3. profit

It's great as a take-along camera (if you demand more quality than a P&S), but I prefer something with a grip for more serious work.
>> Anonymous
It's not for serious work, it's just for doing vacation photos and stuff.
>> Anonymous
If he doesn't have any lenses for Canikon, it's a solid choice. Compact, good non-kit glass, Olympus definitely has its pros.

>>210786
Oh god.
My FT-1 just died about a month ago.
I would cream my pants to put some Hexanon glass on a digital.
How difficult is that conversion?
LINKS! MOAR!

My dad is away on a trip with a camper on the other side of europe. It works actually, I just don't know how well.

However, I simplified the process by
1) using 1.4mm aluminium instead of 1.5mm brass for the thick ring and fixing it to the mount with 2-sided sticky tape instead of screws
2) using small washers instead of thin ring

Also, I added a focus confirmation chip because manual focus with 4/3 viewfinders sucks ass.

That's gorgeous. I really like how Olympus have sized/styled the 410/420 more like a traditional SLR. It really is the OM digital.

>>210792
I'm not totally clear on this, does the Al shim go under the mount on the lens, or just pull the lens forward in the mount throat?
>> Anonymous
>>210797
Read the article. The 1.5mm shim goes over the mounting flange, the 0.5mm shim goes under it.

Moar E-410 with pancakes.

Damn, the fuckers cancelled my order for 25/2.8 again due to supply shortage D:

Canon or Nikon. Everything else is shit.

But hey, if you're happy with it, what we say shouldn't matter.

Do waaant. If only Oly hadn't stuck themselves with that shitty small sensor! RAAAAGE

I was just going to suggest the 25mm f2.8 AF pancake.

Didn't realize they were selling out so fast. :\
>> Anonymous
>>210803

um wat

Have you bothered to check out the advantages?
>> Anonymous
>>210803
It's a lose-lose situation. If they didn't stick with a small sensor, they'd have to make the flange focal distance bigger to accomodate the mirror; and this, in turn, would've made using lots of manual glass impossible without the loss of infinity focus.
>> Anonymous
>>210806
It seems that Olympus didn't realize they hit the jackpot and grossly underestimated the demand. Only shops that have the 25/2.8 in stock are the ones with ridiculous prices (like, $400+ as opposed to $250 on B&H)
>> Anonymous
>>210804

Not really. The most solid, well-rounded SLRs come from Canon and Nikon (Canon > Nikon btw). Everything else is more or less Wal-Mart imitation shit.
>> Anonymous
>>210814

Kind of like the wal-mart garbage kit glass you get with Canikon DSLRs. Good one.

>>210814
Sage for trying to turn the thread into brandfaggotry.
>> Anonymous
>>210817

Poorfag is poor. Besides, sure as hell doesn't compare to the amount of people who assure that pictures taken with Olympus always turn out shitty.
>> Anonymous
>>210817

Never met a professional (those who actually make enough money to feed themselves, not those kids that sell their shitty prints to their relatives) that used anything but a Nikon or Canon. I'm afraid you lose.

Pro tip: Kit glass is not representative of a system as a whole.

That thing looks beautiful. Like a tiny Kiev88 or something like that, except with a tiny sensor.

how exactly does it look like Kiev 88?

If I wasn't such a borkehwhore or planned to do professional work, I would have gone 4/3rds cause of the tiny DSLRs.

It means something when people are ASKING ABOUT ENTRY LEVEL DSLRs you fucking dolt.

TINY SENSOR LOL LOL lol LOL!

Oh wait, it's really not that much smaller.
>> Anonymous
>>210821
80% of people I see with DSLRs use their kit 18-55s.

Kit lenses are representative in another way. Most manufacturers bundle mediocre lenses with their cameras expecting people to upgrade later; 4/3 guys, on the other hand, try to bundle most of their cameras with quality glass from the beginning, even if it raises the price (Leica kits, the pancake, 12-60mm on the E-3, and even the cheapest 14-42mm doesn't leave the feeling of "omg I gotta upgrade this plastic crap asap")

>>210834

The 14-42 kit lens is a pretty nice lens. The entire Zuiko line is nice, even the standard grade stuff.

Oh, wait, I forgot. I don't get to choose from endless supplies of Tamron, Samyang, and Kenko garbage.

>>210842
Don't diss Tamron, they're very decent for a third party lens manufacturer.

As for Samyang/Opteka/etc garbage, you can put it on an Olympus with an adapter if you really want to.

If you're looking to upgrade from your shitty 18-55 kit lens you shouldn't be looking at Tamron anyway.
>> Anonymous
>>210846
Why? Tamron 17-50/2.8 is a decent choice if you don't have the money to get Canon's or Nikon's 17-55.

Never mind what your dad got. What did YOU get?
