Concert photgraphy Anonymous
I have to go do some concert photography for a local metal band.

Any suggestions?

pic related, not mine though.

I also stand corrected, the nikkor AF-S 50mm 1.4 is CHEAPER than the Sigma 50mm by about US 60 dollars.

The Sigma blows everything else away with its new design. If you weren't such a brandfag you'd know that.

Sigma is a brand too genius.

Look at the figures on photozone.de the sigma barely beats out the 15 year old nikkor AF 50mm

>>its new design

lol... yeah they've really managed to add innovation onto the 50mm focal length... hahaha

what equipment do you have available?

-keep shutter speed above 1/100 as you move around alot in the pit and faster shutter speeds prevents motion blur. So bump the iso up and use a fast lens if you need to.

in that regard, zooms with wide apertures are usually better than fixed focals if the band moves around alot.

-check out the light before hand or during the first song (i usually check out the lighting setup for the supporting bands to get an idea of what it'll be like for the headline act, that way it gives you an idea and can help to precipate shots)

-MOVE AROUND, get different angles and try out different lighting patterns, with any luck the venue you're at will have lighting guys who know what they're doing.
