Personally I like the alley one, but I would have taken vertically instead of horizontally.

take a step back, so you can focus on her properly.

anon is right about the alley shot as well, it would have brought out the textures in the wall more, and suited the whole verticle connotation of the image

The alley one has a nice look to it- both these files do- but it's kind of plain. Go back there when there's some nice light.

I dig the portrait; it's a little backfocused, but it's fine. Keep up in this style; too many people go all baroque with their portraits these days. I'd say you're doing pretty well.

But don't shoot in portrait mode or landscape mode or any of that. It does absolutely nothing you can't tell the camera to do yourself, while you give up control over how it turns out and forego the experience that comes with controlling things yourself. Put that thing in manual mode, and learn what it all does.
