Manfrotto 190XB with a Manfrotto 488 RC4 Head

im looking at something lightweight, any opinions on the manfrotto 3001?

You cant really go wrong with a tripod in my opinion. As long as it holds your camera still and steady, its done its job.

Try a monopod if you want serious lightweight.

Nice, i have the 488RC4 with the 190XPROB

A friend recently bought the SLIK 700DX on special from B&H... that thing actually DWARVES my setup. But a bit overkill since he only ever uses a 400D with a 10-22mm, still a great setup and something he's gonna use prob for the rest of his life or at least the tripods life.

Makes me wish i settled for a cheaper set of legs.

But my setup holds a D300 + 17-55mm with no problem.

no monopod. the only thing im going to use this for are my long exposure night shots and panorama's, so i need something sturdy but moveable.

taht SLIK looks nice, but the manfrotto 3001 is a mite cheaper, i dont know what my final decision will be

I got this cheap one that costs about $20 (I got it at 850 PHP). Aluminum and plastic, light but sturdy. Holds my D70s and 70-300 f.4-5.6 just fine with all the legs and neck fully extended.

i went through 3 20$ wal-mart tripods in the last year :|

You know, if you're going through multiple tripods you might want to invest in a better one, given that eventually it'll cause you to go through cameras.

ive got some old gitzo my dad got from his uncle or maybe hes my uncle or something? its nice. i wish heads werent so damn expensive though!
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
If you're a cheapass Benro makes pirated Gitzos at a fraction of the price. It's the best that mainland China has to offer, which is actually pretty damn good. Their stuff is really quite trustworthy, as far as I've seen.

if that was to me(>>193350) its not so much that im a cheap ass, its that im a poor ass 16 year old with no job atleast not yet im lookin.
do they sell heads that fit?
if they are cheap id think about it ive gotten used to the one i have and dont feel like shelling out any sort of
large amounts of money for something i dont really
need. i mean i could buy drugs or a beer or a pipe or
something with that valuable money.

Search amnova dynatran on ebay. They're excellent quality manfrotto copies.

It wasn't, but yeah Benro's heads should fit just fine. I was playing with a huge selection at a store the other day, but I suppose you won't have that opportunity outside Asia.

Expect to pay 20-100 USD for a Benro head.

oh wow thats 10000X cheaper than the gitzo heads!

Where would be a good place to shop for tripods?
Either online or brick and mortar.

I would like to get something kind of decent for when I am out camping this summer but do not want to break my bank.

Hello. I was using a Bogen 724B tripod + built-in head when I started out. The current model is the 725B (about $115 from bhphoto.com or amazon.com). It is very lightweight, comes with a nice bag, and you do not need to buy a separate head. It also comes with a quick-release plate to attach to your camera. If I were a student starting out, I would get this one again.

I currently have the Gitzo 2530 carbon fibre and a head from Really Right Stuff. Together they cost $1100.
