contrast turned up WAY too much
lens flare = fail unless done right (not don't right here)
boring composition
unoriginal subject

There's no artificial lens flare.... I didn't do anything to that.

Here's the original.

Okay, honestly, not so good. (a) overshooped. as said, too much contrast. looks fake.

(b) too much brightness from the lamp itself. it's become a hotspot without any texture or definition, just BRIGHTNESS. Original worked much better for this.

(c) good use of isolating your subject by removing the extra lamp, and okay use of rule of thirds with the lamp on one side instead of dumb in the middle.

(d) Sorry, it's not very interesting. There's just no context or contract (in subject) here to really make anything out of the photo. It really is just a lamp. A good picture of a lamp, but nothing special.

I often could do no better. But when I can, I'll take easily 100 or 200 photos. I took some bird pictures last month, and of the 253 I took, only three really came out "good." And that was fairly sucessful. and by good, I just mean that they appealed to me -- I don't know if I could have done anything significantly better. People still said they sucked. Oh well.
