I am the owner of a Canon EOS 350D.
On summer it's a good toy: I attach a Sigma 70-200 F/2.8 to it and go to crowded places of my city to take candid shots.

On winter there's no interesting people for candid photography (no hot girls with few clothes I mean) over there. So I am planning to buy a little camera to bring with me all the time and take shots like Moriyama's or Yamasaki Ko-Ji's.

I have the Ricoh GR Digital II in my mind:

- little, unobtrusive, wide angle, RAW, a flash shoe to install an optical viewfinder...

What do /p/ think about it? do you recommend me another one like Sigma DP1 or Canon G9?

Thanks!!

have you ever handled that thing? It's too small!

yes, I've handled the Ricoh GR 1 and It's good. Rubber grip feels comfortable and it fits in a pocket. Once in the pocket, the mall's alarm buzzed and I had to return it.

I was very excited when I first heard about it, but when I handled it I realize something that small would drive me crazy. I have rather big hands

goddamn it, creepy pervert. Winter fashion can be 10 times as amazing as summer fashion, ignore your testosterone-induced eyeballing and, if you want to take pictures of women, do it in the winter too and get some good street fashion shots.

Or just die. Whatever works. =]

I know I know. This is my particular (maybe creepy?) point of view. I also shot candid portraits in winter but I don't have so much time to go out to take photographs and that's why I'm looking for a little but powerful camera like the Ricoh's one.

Yeah, and considering how small it is, its easier to get up those really long skirts. I mean, my Rebel isn't that versatile.

I do not take upskirts and such CREEPIEST photos. Only frontal portraits with the cam at eye level.

Oh ok, I can dig it.

I had a chance to play with the Ricoh at the store a few days ago. It's neat, but expensive particularly if you want any of the accessory finders of the wide angle converter.

Voigtlander sells a mini-finder with 28mm lines cheaper than the VF-1 viewfinder from Ricoh

The Voigtlander finder is still around $150 unless you happen to have a source of cheaper ones.

I really dont think this is too creepy.

thank you. Which is your opinion from the photo?
>> Anonymous
I don't think creepiness comes from the content of the photo so much as the intent with which it was taken. Are you trying to make a statement about the time and culture in which you live, or do you just like to take pics of boobs?

boobs are part of the whole thing: the image, the expression, , eyes, colors, the light, the person itself, the mood.

I think it is an interesting snapshot. Not in the sense that it's just a random picture taken but a shot of a snap of time. Think about this, you wear a backpack with an automated camera that snaps pictures of people as you walk around all day, then when you go home you look at them and see things you didn't see the first time. Wow that woman is really beautiful. Was he wearing that crazy shirt? I didn't even notice. Seriously... I walked past an orange moehawk and didn't think twice? I guess what I'm trying to say is that just taking shots of strangers can allow you to appreciate things you just couldn't perceive at a quick glance.

Just as an aside the girl is quite pretty. : P
