Dear /p/ I have a serious problem. The world around me seems very boring and I can't find subjects to shoot anymore. I don't know if it's the city I live in (Toronto) or just my mind state but I'm out of ideas. What should I do to fix this?

(Very crappy photo taken with old crappy camera included)

PS: Traveling to California in a week or two (Sacramento) anything I should try to shoot while I'm there?

Shoot what interests you. find something different. Look at something you've shot before in a different way.

What I generally do is go out and buy some new gear or a different kind of film to sort of jump-start my creativity. Seems to work well, though it's expensive.

Dude, you live in freaking Toronto. Be glad you don't live in hillbillyville like me.

Hillbillyville would be decent, animals to take photos of.

Go to the Toronto Zoo. On a good day, of course. Lots of stuff there, and they change somewhat-regularly.

Get a Hulga. Really new perspective on photography.

Always a favorite with me: urban exploring. You can find some really incredible stuff in the underground. Bring a flash though.

I am in TO too, and i agree with you..its damn boring. What might be good is to learn a new skill..I am decent on panning a subject. Try something new such as macro, or lightning...tomorrow is Heart and Stroke ride. Gonna take lots of photos, hope it doesnt rain or dSLR goes down the drain.

I do macro a lot, I got into catalogue photography recently just based on the idea that you can't go wrong with interesting subjects. Lighting is something I've been doing as well (got a pretty decent set up including a huge lightbox).

would be more neat if the DoF wasn't so shallow, would be nice to see the expression of the two characters behind a bit better, maybe f/3.5 would of been better than f/1.8, still gives out of focus look to the rear but still can make out their expressions better

i live in suburban connecticut. you think toronto's boring? there's nothing but houses and 7-11s here.

my philosophy is that a Great Photo can be taken of anything. if you get bored looking at things, pick something you're bored of looking at, and photograph it until you get a Great one. i was doing that today with just some shades on a window. unfortunately i had to run before i got to Great. i think i may have achieved Passable.

the white balance looks a little too warm, if that background's supposed to be white

It wasn't a stock lens that I was using, it was an old manual one, not sure why the f-stop shows up as that, it just shows up as that by default I guess. The lens doesn't even go DOWN to 1.8 =[ max is actually 4 (none of my lenses that I know of even have a 3.5 option, usually 2.8 straight to 4), shallow DoF was due to using a Panagor auto macro converter (adjustable) on an already intended for macro lens (I can't find it to say it's specs).

Though I prefer it the way it is, I could have focused better on my intended subject.
