Why is Photoshop draining my bitmap's colors? On the left is the .psd after I did some shooping and on the right is when I reopened them after saving as bitmap. Also, after I crop the wide image to get the portrait behind, I can't add text anymore. I don't see the blinking text bar but if I type then apply, the new layer gets renamed to the gibberish I put in so the text was going somewhere.

If I save it as jpg, it looks just fine...

Criticism? Also, it was a friend of mine who took the photo. I just shoop.

there's your problem right there.
If there's some hilarious reason why you need to use bitmap, don't save it with a restricted palette

It's that restricted? I was under the impression that it was just uncompressed.

Tif > Bitmap. No exceptions.

>Tif > Bitmap. No exceptions.
Exceptions:
* You're saving the picture as an icon
* You're compiling the picture into an application
* You want to make the picture available for web browsers that don't support TIFF and are too old to support PNG
* You're using the picture to test BMP rendering code

Also: It's probably a colorspace issue. I.e., you're not using a consistent colorspace throughout your workflow.

Thanks for the replies on the colors but what about the cropping? Even if I save as jpg then open later, I still can't add text. I can only get around it by creating a new document of the exact size then importing the image.

Nice work, btw.

Save always on .PSD, at least if you wanna keep the "original" quality. For anything else, jpg.

What color profile do you have selected?

Not sure, really. It's all on default which I think is RGB for the PSD and 24bit Bitmap.
