My dad has this Nikon N6006. I may go about acquiring it since he barely ever uses it anymore. What does /p/ think of this camera? The only lens he has is the 50mm 1:1.4 f/1.4-16 prime thats on it now.

If it's free, why not?

It's more than usable. Liberate it from his possession and have fun.

Even if you only ever keep the 50 on there, it's a great lens.

One of the best lens fitted on that thing. Liberate it immediately.

I was thinking about getting another lens for it, but I don't know what I would get. Anyone have any suggestions to what lens might make nice company with the 50mm prime? I was thinking maybe a 70-210mm or somesuch. My budget is around $500 and would love to buy used to save money and maybe get some other stuff.

One of my favourite cheap lenses is the nikkor 35-70 f/3.3-4.5. It's faster cousin, the 35-70 f/2.8 is, imo, one of the best walkabout zooms availible. It would, however, eat better than half your budget. :/
dunno, with 500bux I'd probably go:
SB20 flash
35-135 F3.5-4.5 af
105 f/2.8 ais micro
tamron 28 f/2.5
and a 20-brick of provia~
Troll fleas and pawns for deals; never pay what is on the tag. KEH for reputable used stuff, epay if you're a lucky guy.

Rather, go for a wider angle. I think you won't be doing nature photography or sports photography, so a wider telephoto lens would do you good, for landscape shots and general photography. Just avoid DX lenses (these are for dSLRs) and you should be fine.

Camera has been acquired. I'm probably gonna get a 24mm f/2.8 and a 35-105mm f/3.5-4.5. I think it should give me the ability to shoot a few different things and test the water with the camera.
