180' is the normal limit, with 220' the lens is able to look at things BEHIND itself.

duno, must be all that engineering.

I've never used minutes and seconds to describe angles anyway, its normally in radians.

Google something and use that for copypasta to back pointless arguments= about half of all internet arguments or conversations

um are there any other things nikon is reluctant to make? this sounds like another thing that must be japanese market only.
>> Anonymous
>>278644

They aren't reluctant.

Have you seen the size of that thing? It's about 5kg of glass, expensive and few people need one. Canon do the same thing with some of their most expensive or rare lenses. Other manufacturers have similar situations.

You can order it, it'll just cost you a lot and you'll have to wait on the list for it. This is how it has been sold for years and years. There isn't a big enough market to have it sitting on shelves or mass produce it.

not to mention what sort of camera shop is going to buy one of them to put on their shelves

You mean like saying my fisheye has a FOV of 3.141592 rad rather than 180°? That's totally hardcore, man.

As Hubble orbits Earth it takes repeated exposures.

For example, as it passes over New York it points straight up, opens the shutter for a little while, then continues on its way. Each time it passes over New York, pointing up in the same direction, that frame gets exposed more and more, gradually building up a deep image of space.

they should make a 360 degree field of view lens, it wraps the camera in glass
>> Project !dashI8UpO.
>>278736
About 800 exposures totaling at 11.3 exposure time through 400 complete orbits spanning 4 months. The distance makes up for the parallax.

Wow, is there even a market for that?
It produces a shite quality, 360 degree image that could easily be made in photoshop.
What are the pros? :|
>> Anonymous
>>279003
You only have to take one shot. It's just a quicker way of doing it, not really worth the money or quality drop IMO. But for the seeming target market- realtors who wan to get a quick internet Quicktime panorama- it should be fine; though it's sad, they and their all-auto CoolPixes won't really know the difference.

Burt probably has it in mind for 360 degree installation views of stuff he's curating, but a stitched panorama should be fine for him.

The other advantage that still makes this legit is that it can capture motion- since there's only one exposure, you can make a 360 degree panorama that includes action.

What does google do for their street views? Do they have some crasy full circle CCD and lens or do they just have a couple cameras that automatically create the panorama?

From the pictures I've seen of their cars, I think it's this, but I'm not sure.

Also, I lol'ed:

Privacy advocates have objected to this Google feature, pointing to views found to show men leaving strip clubs, protesters at an abortion clinic, sunbathers in bikinis, cottagers at public parks, parents hitting their children, males picking up prostitutes and other activities, as well as people engaging in activities visible from public property in which they do not wish to be seen publicly.[42] Google maintains that the photos were taken from public property. Before launching the service, Google removed photos of domestic violence shelters, and allows users to flag inappropriate or sensitive imagery for Google to review and remove.[43] When the service was first launched, the process for requesting that an image be removed was not trivial;[44] however, Google has since changed its policy to make removal more straightforward.[45] Images of potential break-ins, sunbathers and individuals entering adult bookstores have, for example, remained active and these images have been widely republished.[46]

[...]

Some parents have expressed concern over Street View compromising the security of their children.[54]

Aaron and Christine Boring, a Pittsburgh couple sued Google for "invasion of privacy". They claimed that Street View made a photo of their home available online, and it diminished the value of their house, which was purchased for its privacy.[55] However, a photograph of the home of the Boring couple was already available on the county tax assessor's website prior to their lawsuit.[56]
