Get a tripod, or simply put the camera on a pile of stuff. Zoom in a little, but not too much. Turn the knob on the top of your camera to where it says "Av" or "A" or something like that. You're trying to get your camera in "Aperture Priority" mode. You should see a little number somewhere; move that setting down to its lowest.
Set the self-timer, press the button, and stand the right distance from the camera (a few test shots help).
Shoot outdoors on an overcast day.
