Soon there will be a weaboo convention over here, and I'm going. I will be photographing cosplayers quite a bit, and indoors, most of the time. What flash setup would /p/ recommend, and what films? I'd prefer bright and colorful portraits, as the cliche japanese cosplay shots.

One flash on the body, pointed straight up with a card behind. Nowhere near the best as lighting goes, but easy to carry and versatile.

Film isn't as important - drugstore 100 if you're cheap, Kodak Portra 160VC if you aren't. I don't trust my equipment enough to shoot slides for a one time event like this, but if you do there's always Velvia.

Astia or Sensia(eh), don't use velvia unless you want them to look like martians.

Just get some portra and big flash, on a mount if you can. A potato masher metz or sunpak would be the ideal. Unless the place is very well lit, I wouldn't bother going with a slow film. NPZ is pretty nice unless you need to reproduce big. Don't forget to drag the shutter or you'll get nerds in a cave from the flash. If you're heading outside for some, definitely bring a bit of astia, it's amazing.
