Sony Alpha A200 Anonymous
I'm considering getting this as my first DSLR

Amazon is selling it with the kit lens (8-70mm f/3.5-5.6) and a 75-300mm f/4.5-5.6 lens, for $600, is this a good deal, /p/ ? also, is that 75-300 lens any good? what does f/4.5-5.6 mean?

If it was actually an 8-70mm lens I would probably switch to Sony. Or at least buy a minolta-to-EOS adapter.

BUT IT'S NOT, YOU FUCKING LIAR

Anyway everyone here hates sony so you will get a lot of shit responses. The A200 is a decent SLR, aimed much more at consumers and soccer moms than pros, but it does the job.

f/4.5 to 5.6 is the maximum aperture of the lens at 75mm and 300mm. It's a "slow" lens meaning you can't shoot very well in dim light. Does the A200 have the steadyshit? If yes then it doesn't matter as much.

For 600 bucks, getting a body with lenses from 18 to 300mm is a pretty damn good deal if you ask me. Just consider that you'll be taking most of your shots at night with flash.

18-70* ...

Yeah, it does have "Image Stabilization", if that's what you're referring to.

Thanks kind anon!

This dude speaks the truth. In low-light situatoins, invest in a tripod.

How much do fast Sony lenses go for, anyway?

OP, this is an OK deal, and a the Alpha series are good cameras for people who want a DSLR but aren't that serious about photography.

I would place this camera WAY above the Nikon D40, slightly above the cheaper Canon Rebels, and slightly below the Pentax K200D
