Has anyone gotten weird lines on the side of their pictures like this?
I know it happens with film, but digital?

Been messing around with a film one(which i like better), but my lens is messed up.

the lighting is poor in this one, there's far too much gray-- and the girl isn't that well illuminated [she looks like the subject to me]. Her pose seems awkward, too; maybe she could've been physically interacting with some books. It also might've been better if you took it elsewhere than your eye-level, like if you were on your knees or holding the camera up above your head or something, just something different.

Your other photo seems very gray too. Composition seems weak-- there's no focus [the waffle house sign sticks out to me, but it's belittled by everything else], no leading lines for the eye to follow. Most of the photo seems cluttered. Like somebody on /p/ said a few weeks ago, a photo of nothing in particular is... just a photo of nothing. I would recommend shooting real early/late in the day, when the shadows are more dynamic; that should help you with your gray problem outdoors. You should also look for things that stand out and take a photo focusing on that, rather than just taking a photo of nothing in particular.

As for your green line problem, I don't know what's going on. Either way, here's what your second photo would look like with some improved contrast and level adjusting.
