Also, since I am getting into cameras and photography as art for the first time, I would like to know what kinda cameras (prefer to stay digital for now, although I know that film gives more options) I should go for after I wanna move on from my DSC-H3.

Thanks!

If you go for 35mm film, go for a manual-centered brand or a camera from the pre AF era. I'm a digital canonfag and even I would choose maybe an old Nikon F or FT etc, you know, drive some nails with it etc. Maybe a Pentax. I got to play with an old Olympus OM-1 recently too. It's a beautiful little camera. Canon is fine too, but unless you're planning to acquire lenses for film and wish to use them on digital later, I'd avoid the EOS (AF) series, since they're mostly plastic. The FD series work fine though (metal bodies on many of them), they just won't work on EOS AF models (both film or digital)

In any case, it's late and I must sleep. Might wanna lurk moar before you decide on something.

Good night.

I greatly appreciate your input. Thanks anon!

However, I am debating on sticking with digital. Don't think I have enough dough for a dark room and film.

If you don't have enough for a darkroom and film you don't have enough for a good DSLR.

well I was looking to go for a 500+ camera for my next one (got the dsc-h3 on sale. half off at 170.)

But I mean I don't think I can drain continuous dough into film all the time. Figure if I go for digital, I will be cutting down bigitme on what would be film costs.

Then any brand will be fine, except Sony because of reasons I'm sure others won't fail to point out. You -might- want to avoid Olympus' digital SLRs too because of their smaller sensor format.

I'd go for either Canon (went Canon, lust for the other two at times), Nikon or Pentax. If you're looking forward to using fullframe sensors (FF) one day, discard Pentax. If you don't want FF anyways, you might like a Pentax, they're very well featured for the price and they have nice optics.

Between Canon and Nikon, it depends on two things mainly: how they feel in your hands, and how much you want to spend. Low end Canons feel like shit handling them. Low end Nikons suck dick because they're crippled and are overall bad investments because of certain features that are discarded to lower their price (cant autofocus on 85% of the available lenses and the tiny viewfinder sucks dick for focusing manually).

Mid-range and upwards, Canon and Nikon are both just fine. At that point it's about which interface you like better (their ergonomics, control layouts, and menus are very different). At that point it's just taste.

Now Im going for real.
