Inspiration Anonymous
Hey /p/,

I'm a student photographer with hopes of being a pro. I suppose that I should be spending more time in here, but I don't. Rather ironic, no?

For the past four years, I've had a passion for photography. It seems as though I was blessed by a muse. But lately, I've had a lot of shit happen in my life. And I don't want to say, but I feel as though I am not inspired by anything. I feel so ashamed, because I am mentoring another student in my class, and her self-portraits are incredible, and out of this world when I compare them to my recent work.

Any suggestions /p/?

The photo I attached is one I took at MangaNEXT 06. One of the last good cosplay shots I took, at least what I think.

Should I stop being so pessimistic? And look at the roll half exposed as to half unexposed? What do you usually do for inspiration?

The obvious answer is to steal the student's work and pass it off as your own.

Usually what I do when I'm feeling uninspired is I just go for a walk with my cameras. Look around and take pictures of anything that strikes my fancy.

Another exercise I do sometimes is pull out one of my old film cameras, stick one roll of film in it, and take a walk until I finish off the roll. Just take pictures of anything that strikes your fancy without concentrating too hard on it until you're out of film. I guess the equivalent with a 20d would be to stick in a 64M card or something.

welcome to the club. life has it's ups and downs. I'm currently in a photography slup as well, but I'm aware that getting out of it is only my next inspiration away. deal with the shit that happens, get over it, and move on. work closely with the student, maybe she'll end up inspiring you. Just because you're a mentor, doesn't mean you can't learn from HER. :)
