Minolta x-700
Tamron 35–70mm f/3.5
Tamron 70–210mm f/4–5.6

Available for permanent loan in a few months. I bought a G7 a month ago and it's the only camera I've ever owned/used. What should I expect if I take the Minolta? I have zero interest in owning gear for gear's sake and I'm not too thrilled about the idea of film.

1. Expect to learn the true joy of manually focusing with a camera designed for manual focus
2. Expect to be able to find some really nice, really cheap used lenses. I got a 50mm f/1.4 for my Minolta SR-T for $20.
3. Expect to find your desire for a digital SLR to increase exponentially after you've used it for a bit
4. Expect to become more open to the idea of film.

2. Sweet. I'm actually in Japan now so I figured I could get a few lenses reasonably cheap anyway.

But if I buy lenses for this, can I use them with an <x> brand DSLR if I buy one later? I guess they would lack AF but are there any other problems with this idea? Is that in itself a big problem with a camera not designed for manual focus?

No, lenses will not work with your DSLR.

I recently bought four lenses for $45 for Minoltas

50mm
35mm
35mm Wide angle
85-205mm zoom
135mm

a 2x adapter for all lenses, and a macro adaption thing for the 50mm, a polarizing filter for the 50mm also.

It also came with an SRT-100.

So you should be able to find lots of interesting lenses for the camera.

Nope. The reason they're so cheap is that Minolta's manual-focus line died when Konica-Minolta got out of the camera business (and was effectively dead before that thanks to the Maxxum/Dynax AF line)
