Okay, /p/, here's a question for you:

I'm going to hike to Kalalau later this summer (pic related), and although I've decided to bring my trusty N80 over my D200 (lighter, cheaper to replace, no need to worry about batteries, etc.), but I'm still unsure about what lens to bring.

The trail is about 10 miles long and fairly rough, and along with the camera gear, I'll need to pack food/camping supplies, so weight and size are an issue.

Here's what I currently have:
Nikon 50mm f/1.8
Nikon 105mm f/2.0
Nikon 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5D
Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 D

What would you buy/bring?

tl;dr: Going camping, need good lens.

Depends. How much do you want to carry? Are you a bronzed, built 240 pound guy, or an average 110 pound woman?

My inclinations, assuming one is happy to carry 3 lenses:
One lens that is as wide as I can get it. So, from your list, the 18-35.
One lens that is as long as I can get it. Your 105 seems a bit short for this though...
One low-light lens. The 50.

You really don't own a midtele->tele zoom?

I'd buy a 10-20mm Sigma. Should be pretty awesome for those Hawaiian landscape pics.

We don't know the sort of photography you do, or your style, so we can't say.

If I was going camping and had that kit to choose from, I'd take the 50mm and the 105mm, maybe see if I could get an old AI or AI-S 35mm or 24mm on the cheap, for landscapes. Maybe one of the zooms if it was small enough, otherwise I'd make do with the fifty for that. But that's me.

I'm a 170 lb, medium build guy. I'd like to keep my pack around 30 lbs or so, 35 max.

I'd probably leave the 105 behind in favor of a zoom, it's heavy and not very versatile. I've been considering an 80-200mm f/2.8, I know it will be a good investment, but I'm not sure if it will be too heavy and unwieldy in this situation.

>>186081I'd buy a 10-20mm Sigma.

N80 is film, genius.

10 miles is a walk in the park. Bring whatever you need.

I'd leave the sigma at home. It's rough the n80 doesn't meter with AI lenses because you could get a 135 or 200 for fairly cheap.
I think if it were me, I'd bring the N80 with the 18-35 attached and the D200 with the 105 attached. Stick some velvia in the N80, take advantage of crop factor on the D200. Use both cameras with their advantages in mind
