I came plenty of times...

is that a nikkor?
>> Anonymous
>>246885
Yes you dumb shit. Probably the most famous Nikkor ever made. The thing also has a cage mount that attaches to the back of the lens, so your camera body basically sits inside the lens itself. You can see by the size of the mount how enormous that optic is.

Incidentally the 8mm fisheye is about 1/10 the size, weight and cost, so it's a much better deal. 6mm is really only for people with incredible penis issues.

fuck that is awesome, optical engineers need more spare time!

Or rather, just need to be tasked with actually coming up with new lens designs instead of doing yet another standard zoom.

How many models of standard zoom does Nikon have, anyway? It's something insane.

18-55, 18-70 (both no longer in production?), 18-55 VR, 16-85 VR, 18-135, the new 18-105 VR, 18-200 VR, 17-55, am I forgetting something? That's only counting DX standard zooms. And yet this list STILL lacks an "ultimate" f/2.8 VR lens, something that all other manufacturers have in one form or other.

I would suggest fixing it with vingetting.

but, if you are less into the artistic value of photography, I would suggest the following

mmm I agree. I think that unfortunatnly, Nikon is becoming terribly consumer oriented instead of pro oriented (not saying canon arnt) and appear to be spending far to much time pleasing the MP WOW crowd instead of delivering awesome new features (and no, the D90s video mode is not awesome).
>> Anonymous
>>247200
canon does not have an EF normal zoom with 2.8 and IS, only EF-S
>> Anonymous
>>247214
I was talking about APS, obviously. No one has a full-frame f/2.8 standard zoom with IS.
>> Anonymous
>>247208
The D90 video mode is more like a proof-of-concept, like, say, live view was on the Olympus E-330. It's not really useful now, but in a couple generations it'll be standard issue on most DSLRs with real-time AF and all the other stuff the D90 is missing.
>> Anonymous
>>247208
They can be. They have the three best digital SLRs for (non-studio) pros ever made in current production: the D300, D700, and D3. They've got a proof-of-concept (like the guy above said) video mode in the D90, expect that for the PJ's in the D400, 800, and 4. They'll use it more than the soccermom crowd everyone thinks it's targeted for.

>>247233
You're right, but

>video
>real-time AF

Does not compute. It might be rarely useful and they'll have it, but enjoy your focus hunting showing up in the end result and not just in your viewfinder before you press the shutter.

Uhh, welcome to the wonderful world of consumer video cameras.

What is the D90 missing? And what can we expect of the video feature?

I'll readily admit to not coming to /p/ often, but from what I heard of the D90 I thought it would be pretty cool. There's something appealing about being able to take short HD quality videos whenever I want. (My primary love is motion picture, photography latter)

>>247234
I'm not saying nikon (or anyone) is not paying _any_ attention to the pros, rather that they are spending more and more time developing for the consumer market rather than their core pro market. Its not like i think its stupid either, the consumer market probably has more buying power and influence (see D80 success) than the pro share. As for current leading kit? It's the newist, it better be the best, but with two leaders in the field it just jumps back and forth between the two. With the 50D and 5DII out will you still be able to make the same comment?

This isnt a rant at anyone, just a warning that pros (and more, prosumers) will have to take a back seat with RnD.

God i hope im wrong.

>>247373
You're probably right. The 50D and D90 aren't significant improvements, so the DX market really isn't changing unless there's a D300h/s in the works. Let's hope Canon has something nice in store for us with the 5D MkII. They've certainly had all the time in the world to come out with something nice.
