Opinions on toy cameras, /p/? Holgas, Dianas, the Oktomat, lomography in general?
Novelty items that are a waste of money, or creative and fun?

I'm considering buying a Holga, but not without a good set of filters for it. Modifying would also be necessary. I've studied the technicalities of photography for a good amount of time, now I want to move on and experiment.

So, toy cameras; Waste of time and money? Any experiences?

They're not a waste of money if you don't pay much for them in the first place.
I got given a Holga last Christmas, still haven't run a roll through it yet. I've been meaning to take it into the city and shoot some stuff with it there but never gotten around to it/like sharpness and aperture control too much.

They're fun, especially the oktomat. They aren't expensive either, so you should give it a try and figure it out for youself.
