Photoshop CS2 has a "Merge to HDR" feature too.

stuckincustoms does the best HDR, i'd buy his work if it wasn't so god damn expensive.
>> Anonymous

by best do you mean tacky? all of his photos are very, very average and then have had this technique used on them. they look like something from the front of 70's geography textbook.

i cant be the only one that thinks this reliance on one technique is narrow practice. they may be very popular but they dont do anything new or well for that matter.

HDR - High Dynamic Range

Where you take several photos, merge them into 24bit and then you choose your color in 8 bit.

You guys rule.

I'm using photomatix now and it's brilliant.

(picture related. single .NEF file)

Photoshop CS3 blows goats in comparison.

Anyone know where I can get a serial for photomatix? :P

I know, interbutts, but if you really like a product, especially from a small dev house, you should pick it up. It's only $99.
The academic price is even cheaper, they give you a *70%* discount.

I don't have any money. Literally. Uni student, here. I couldn't buy it if I wanted to. So it's not really theft. Even though I do feel bad about it. If I do end up using this program I will buy it eventually (when I get money).

Using a beta version anyway. 2.4 beta 4.

You sir win an internet.

btw, pic from OP is an analogue photo developed in a darkroom. No digital manipulation at all. I scanned the thing. anyone wanna guess how I made myself semi-transparent? :P

There are at least three ways to do it:

1. double exposure of the film
2. long exposure utilising a piece of black card to block the lens when moving out of the way. This trick is used for taking pictures of the stars and to prevent lights ruining a 30 minute exposure.
3. The same as 1 but when creating the print from two negatives.
>> Anonymous
you can also use a long exposure + flash to freeze a moment, but that's not used here

If you did do that, wouldn't his movement away from the camera be exposed too?
(Also wouldn't the frozen pose be solid, instead of transparent?)
>> Anonymous
it would still be trans. his movement away will be notice depending on how long the exposure is.

That picture is a great example of HDR done wrong. Its not supposed to be for making images look weird. You're supposed to recreate accurate lighting. That image suggests the person doesn't understand how to use HDR.

lol just because he has a cheesy image overlay doesn't make it a HDR image or an attempt at one.
