Why are there holes in this lens hood? They're called "vented" but I can think of no reason other than weight reduction, and the hood weighs like 10 grams. Is it just some Leicafaggottree?

I know for some larger hoods its so it doesn't full obstruct the rangefinder / viewfinder view but i'm not sure about smaller ones like this.

This is essentially correct. The hood is already big enough to block many viewfinders, depending on how the window layout is.

That doesn't look so bad but even though it's leather, I think it looks a bit too standard. Same colors, just a slightly different texture. I personally still like the one with white scales better. That's an awesome lens, though.
