Use a fast lens, pump the ISO to max, shoot RAW to easily alter colored lights.
Flash makes it look lame, the ambient lighting is most of the time better unless the lighting is really shit, try and bounce the flash off the ceiling if you're in a dark club. Stage concerts are usually well lit anyway.
Also, go for different perspectives. And by different, I mean where people wouldn't usually be like way on the side and zoomed up close or from above. You rarely see good band photos taken from above. Up close with a wide is great as well.
