I've never taken a picture of a moonset.

I think this might have been better if you hadn't vastly overexposed the moon, but I'm not sure how you could have done that while getting the water to look like that (which I think is kinda neat). Maybe a graduated ND filter or the more ghetto method of covering up the part of the lens that the moon's coming through after half a second or so.

I'd really like to know how not to vastly overexpose the moon in these kind of shots too. I really like this one but you can't even tell it's the moon.

Cool lighting effect in the water from lights on the pier I was on. Unfortunately the wood pier was rocking and swaying with the waves.

Wouldn't it be fairly straightforward to just take two exposures, one for the water and one for the moon. Then, layer them in photoshop with the water layer on top and erase the overexposed moon.

Sounds easy enough to me.

Graduated filter. Multiple exposures, etc.

Generally I'd say you were best to expose for the moon. It will still be very bright and the water will still look nice with its reflection.

yeah, I was talking to a pro guy and he showed me a shot with the moon in it that he took. That's what he did.

This was a couple years back when Venus was approaching the moon... or something.
I don't know if /p/ likes it, but I thought it was nifty.

Also, it turned out to be the 6666th picture taken on my camera.
