Hey guys, I've decided I'd like to start working with models. I have a mess of antique lighting equipment I got from an old guy on craigslist. It was his grandfathers world war 1 era stuff. Its all pretty ancient. The lighting is more interesting as a photographic subject than most models. It works, but the bulbs are..... impossible to replace. What could you guys recommend as a lighting kit? What have you folks had luck with? I'm going to be doing a lot of stuff at home which I'll use the antique lighting for, and traveling to peoples homes and or abandon buildings (probably powering those shoots with my car and extension cords) Whats your thoughts ?

I have pictures of the antiques. Geeze. I came here a while ago after going from manual to digital and you folks suggest I just sell my gear. I ask about lighting kit advice, and you want pictures of antiques. Fucking relentless.

I used to do more with an old manual camera. I had an old canon with a few lenses. Then after purchasing said antique equipment (its all outside, i'll go snap a few pictures of one of the bulbs for you guys, i've got it sitting in my room. ) I decided that I wasn't in the mood to reconstruct a whole room in my house for black and white development. Eventually, when I'm living on my own. Yes. But right now there just isn't much room to spare. So I went and picked up a digital camera.

My lighting kit is a couple of Vivitar 285HV flashes with wireless triggers.

Don't listen to ac's advice! I did and then I burned my hand on the kettle THE SAME DAY. Coincidence? I think not.

Okay. Have fun spending way more money for less light that's heavier and hotter and requires a shit-ton more power.

blah. I shouldn't have gone with a canon...... I'm a bit new to off camera flash. Is there a pod of some sort i can use to connect the multiple flashes?

Nothing wrong with Canon. That's what I shoot, too.

These people sell really cheap wireless flash triggers. Stick the transmitter in your hot shoe, receiver on the flash, and you're good.

How many flashes would be adequate for most situations? Any specific models you feel function better than others?

You can do a lot with just one if you learn to bounce and reflect. Two is better.

I use Vivitars 'cause they're cheap and that extra money can be used to fly me to models. The strobist blog's a better teacher than I am.

I can sort of find models around here. I have a few ex's who model. And I know some cute chicks. No I'm Not going to post any pictures of them here. I've been bad about making a model release =/ I need to get myself in a position to make $$ to fly to models :-p
