Protests BurtGummer
Anyone taken any shots at Riots/protests?

(Preferably not scientology)

As a Britfag, id love the opportunity to get some shots from a big riot, but we've gone soft recently in this country. We used to know how to do it right... I love the way the cops smiled for the picture!

Hmm, we don't have riots in my country. We do have political rallies that can go out of hand though. Anybody have tips for shooting those things? And how to defend my gear in the event of water canon, tear gas, or stampedes?

If you are photographing a protest/riot and the police beats you, you're going to be a celebrity.

wow look like a rush! wonder how many of them leave with broken equipment. Looks like most people seem to leave them alone, I'd still wear some body armor

Just get a real DSLR. When you go out and buy a professional camera you want it to be able to take a beating. I don't know what camera you have but in my opinion the D2Xs and D200 are great for riots. Don't know about Canon and don't care.

And when it gets smashed or stolen, you won't have any money left for a new. Great advice.

Get a film body for things like this, cheap and rugged. Made out of metal.

"For water and Sport"

Sounds correct for the Mayday riots.

I would of thought that in a riot you might need a camera WITH an auto setting.

Since when do the D2Xs and D200 not have auto settings?

What?

I thought the D200 was without an "automatic" setting. Unlike the D80.

P = automatic for all intensive purposes.
And for a riot you don't want auto, you want shutter priority, and possibly Auto-ISO

The man on the left looks way too happy as the building behind him burns to the ground.
