Medium BurtGummer !!RRMHFHglFsy
Anyone used medium format? Im thinking about getting into it, but i have absolutely no idea where to start. I like the rolleiflex/yashica mat design, and want to take some crisp images i can get blown up to A3+ without losing too much crispness.

Im not blowing 3 grand on a D3, so lets keep it film.

wat.

Get a Yashica E or one with a Tri-Lausar lens.

I started with a Yashica and it was a great way to get into MF. TLR's are a bit like rangefinders though where they're not really for everyone or some types of shots.

The other route would be a 645 SLR like a Mamiya or a Pentax. Check out keh for prices of stuff as a lot can be had for a song these days.

1) you don't need medium format to print at A3

2) D3 isn't medium format

3) you have no idea what the fuck you're doing

2) Digital 36x24 outresolves MF film, though he could be looking into the D700. Or he might just want film or a TLR.

i hope he realizes the D3 is actually $4,995

>>In the above artcile I make the claim that the 1Ds produces images superior to medium format drum scans. I took a lot of flack for this when the piece first appeared, even though many pros who I have spoken with and who have started working with the camera are also coming to the same conclusion. It therefore gives me a chuckle (and no small satisfaction) to report that the review of the 1Ds in this month's Shutterbug magazine by Jay Abend comes to the same conclusion as I did.

>> "The files look like really good, really clean, really sharp medium format drum scans." and, "It brings medium format image quality to a digital SLR..."

Or three grand in UK moneys

1) I know that, but i want to create large prints with very little loss of detail or visible digital disturbance.

2) I know, but it is a high end DSLR with good photo quality. (Would the Canon 5D constitute medium format? How big does the sensor have to be?)

3) I know that, but im trying to make awesome photos for you to look at, so try and help.

Hmm, i am leaning toward the yashicas, they seem cheaper but with good output quality.

56mm × 42mm

Otherwise the depth of field vs the angle of view is different for the different focal lengths.
