Buy a tripod and buy a larger format camera.

If you're looking forward to taking shots at night, one of those compact cameras isn't going to do you any good.

DSLR cameras are much more suited for this (particularly Canon ones).

They're not point-and-shoot cameras, though, and not nearly as compact.

I suggest you don't go for a DSLR unless you're going to devote good time (and money, these are investments, not just toys) to it.

If you want to remain within the compact range, I'd recommend you look at Canon's A### compact series. Not as tiny as the 1000 series, or as stylish, but they'll give you a much better service. You might want to take a look at Sony cybershots or Fuji Finepix.

The other anon's suggestion is a good one, too: for night shots, get a tripod, regardless of the camera.

For more info on the different brands' cameras, I recommend you to check:

I suggest you to buy a Mamiya xx and get a phase one 39mp back, some good lenses, tripod, laptop, wifi connector and you're done.

I see what you did there.

If you're just taking pictures of things like the skyline, where you can stand to stick it on a tripod, you should be fine with this. However, you might want to note:
1. It doesn't appear to have full manual modes based on the picture (although it might just have them in a different spot from most Canon compacts), just "scene" modes. If you're going to be trying for anything other than point-and-shoot, you'll probably want Av/Tv/M modes.
2. It's optomized for small size. Which means it might (although, again, I may be talking out my ass here) have left out some nice features that you might otherwise want. Or it might just be more expensive with no other features. So, how important is its size to you?

I don't see any obvious features (aside from size) that might make it better than, say, the A630 (which would be my personal recommendation), and the A630 is cheaper and has a nicer LCD, and I've taken some really good night shots with my A95 (precursor to the a6x0 line).

If you're going to be taking night shots, budget for a tripod, too. Doesn't need to be a good one for a camera this small.
