Looking for a point-and-shoot. I'd like to spend the money on a quality SLR but just can't justify it for my limited needs: Family, everyday photos, pictures for my articles.

I'm looking at either the cannon PowerShot A590 IS or the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W130. Any tips or suggestions?

Just get the SLR and sell it if you find after using it that a point-and-shoot is REALLY enough for what you'd want done.

But go for the Canon, just in case.

the general consensus on /p/ is that the Canon powershot A series is a decent p&s.

that's the family camera we have and it's pretty good.

On paper, it looked like the Cannon camera line was better quality. Thanks for the input.
