Nikon D90 CONFIRMED Anonymous
As Photokina looms large, D90 rumors have been in abundance -- with a varying range of legitimacy.

This here Circuit City inventory screenshot, however, has a ring of truth to it, and even unveils a pricetag in the process: $1299.99. Not bad for rumored specs that include a 12 megapixel Live View sensor, video recording, HDMI out and GPS.

The price also includes that new 18-105mm VR lens, but there's no more info to be had at the moment.

More-or-less agreed, at least in the high end.

The "new 5D" had better kick ass for under $4k or I'm switching to Nikon (D700).

No, the D80 is $999 for the kit right now and will drop to $799 kit / $599 body in the next month or so.

Yeah, Nikon needs to reboot their DSLR naming scheme and Canon REALLY needs to do thier P&S names.

On what basis? The A500s jumped to the A700s, but everything else seems okay to me.

You forgot about the Blu-Ray compatibility for PS3 games and the integrated cell phone.

Much more so the SDxxx than the Axxx line. It's fucking impossible for consumers to decipher at this point.
>> Anonymous
>>234738
Ahh, I see. I'm not into the SD line since I don't need a slim camera, but I guess most people buying SDxxxx cameras don't worry about the naming convention. Ask people with ultra-slims what model they have and 90% won't even be able to tell you.

The D40-D90 series will probably just keep their current names in future incarnations. Except it will be the D90X, D90X2, X3, etc.

Nikon has a very easy naming system. Single digits are the pro bodies, the X is the high resolution model, and H is the high speed model - right now the D3 is really the D3H, they just haven't released the D3X yet.

Then you have your pro sff bodies, in the hundreds. D100,d200,d300,d700 etc.

then of course the double digits are reserved for beginner slrs.

fuck those model numbers, for that market segment, they can just look at MP numbers

I've said it before, Nikon should've done it like this:

FX-P(rofessional)-I (=D3)
DX-P(rofessional)-I, II (=D1, D2)
DX-A(dvanced)-I,II, III (=D100, D200, D300)
FX-A(dvanced)-I (=D700)
DX-[noclue]-I,II (=D70, D80)
DX-B(asic)-I, II, III (=D50, D40, D60)

Stick the X and H on the end, like -X or -H, although I do think it's kinda silly that they bother with two different versions.

Unlikely, because Nikon marketing material loves to harp on about the deep lineage behind Nikons and Nikkors. Hence the model name font dating back to the F3 and the letter+single digit system going back to the F2.

Of course if they really cared they wouldn't have gimped the basic DSLR meters and gotten rid of aperture rings but oh well. Also the S3-2000 and SP-2005 should've become regular production but that'd be pretty damn unlikely.
