I've been here for a while, and I'm noticing that most of the topics and shots here are digital. I see one further down on the page that is obviously about a film camera

My question is this: how many people here in /p/ actually shoot film?

Part 2 of that question is: For those of you who DO shoot film, how many here are into lomography?

pic related.

Camera: Holga 120N
Film: Fujichrome 120
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: f/8
Focal Length: 60mm
Process: C-41
>> Lynx !!KY+lVSl0s2m
I've very nearly stopped shooting digital. I shoot atleast 2 rolls of tri-x a week, usually closer to 3.
I just won an F3 off ebay to replace my elan 7. The only digital pics I've taken lately were just to check exposure for flash shots.
I was kinda into lomo before I realized pics that are in focus are much more interesting.

>>254501

Yeah, focus is nice and all, but in my opinion, there's something about the feel of the lomos. It's like they have a personality of their own, and the camera is throwing its own two cents into every shot you take. I don't know... just a thought.

Thats why I bracket. The camera is my bitch, and I don't let it tell me SHIT.

Resident lomofag here, same as always!

Damnit, all this talk about Holga and none about Diana. I own both, and personally I enjoy shooting with my Diana more. Especially now with the new lenses coming out (ie: fisheye, 55mm wide angle, 38mm wide angle, and close up lenses) there's a shit-ton more you can do.All I have for my Holga 120 CFN are the colored and the soft focus filters, along with the ringflash. I also own a SuperSampler, Fisheye2, and of course the LC-A+. I actually know a thing or two about "proper" photography so I can actually produce half decent images.

but the camera is as much of the experience as the photographer, the subject, even the weather. i think you just need to learn to let go maybe.

i shoot film regularly, but im in financial straights for now and was forced into digital. when things settle again, i'll be back to film
>> elf_man !!DdAnyoDMfCe
>>254499
Of course, digital is easier to get online, so you won't see as many film threads just due to convenience.

>>254508

I want a Supersampler so bad. It's the next camera I'm going to buy. I'm only talking about Holgas because it's the lomo camera I started with, and it's the one I still use. Film costs, and so does development, so I can't save fast enough to get a new camera. Tell me more about the SuperSampler though.

If you are going to post Holga shots, at least clean off the dust before you scan, or clean it up in photoshop afterword.

I love film, and I've defended the Holga plenty of times on this board, but you have to treat the image like you think it is worth something if you want anyone else to think it is.
>> Anonymous
>>254519

There's a little dust, yeah. I had the developer scan it for me, and other than resizing, I usually don't like to do much if any editing to the shots. When I do shoot digital, I spend hours in Photoshop making sure every flaw is gone, but with the film stuff, I think every "mistake" is unique and part of the image.

Trust me, I do think it's worth something, otherwise, I wouldn't have even brought it up.

hi pic of your camera?
>> Serenar !m827jEgWi.
>>254520
Funny, I'm the other way around. I get anal about cloning every last bit of dust out of my scans, but with digital shots I just hope that nobody notices the hot pixels everywhere.

As for part 2, I take pictures because I derive enjoyment from the activity. Part of that enjoyment comes from holding a well engineered bit of history, when it comes to the film cameras I shoot. I derive zero enjoyment from holding a plastic piece of shit, so no Lomography for me thanks.

Also I think it doesn't really constitute art if you're hoping for your camera to fuck up on its own. I'd look more kindly on the "whee light leaks" crowd if they punched them in themselves on purpose. So I think pinhole photography is pretty cool, even if it tends to be a blurry mess, while Lomo shit tends (TENDS) to be just that.

It really makes me sad to see film die off, especially as slowly as it has been the past few years. Nikon doesn't make film cameras anymore. Polaroid doesn't make film. Almost all the film I see in the freezer of my local camera store is nearing expiration, and my backup store can't even order 120 anymore. It's a damn shame, I say.

Expired film is good news because then you can offer to "take it off their hands" for a nice price.

Nikon is still making the F6 and "making" the FM-10, I believe.

By the way, fellow filmfags, film can't quite be dead if Kodak just released a new emulsion, right? Right? oh god i've lost all hope

film is still alive in landscape photography, fuji just re-released veliva in a new 50 iso to replace the original they killed last year. it seems fairly similar so far, but i think they greens may not be as punchy

Doesn't really indicate what Nikon's future path will be like, though. A subsidiary (the one assembling the FM3a at the time) begged corporate to get approval.

People bash me for having 4 cameras, but they each serve a purpose....I routinely use my 2 EOS DSLRs at the same time, plus there's my Elan 7 loaded with slide film and my ancient Mamiya 500TL loaded with 400 ISO B&W. But lomo? No. Just no.

I own a XTi, but when I shoot film, it is on a cine camera, usually the Arri SR2 or SR3. Although I wish to purchase a film SLR on the cheap in the future. Count me as one of the 'new' generation of filmmakers that prefers the look of film much, much more than the look of digital.
>> Anonymous
actually, i think cosina makes the fm10 for nikon, and i don't think it's going away anytime soon. hell, they specifically made a point of stressing that when they killed off their film operation.

as for shooting film, i like to do it, and i have quite a few cameras that take the stuff. I shoot expired fuji superia (someone gave me like 50 rolls) on an Argus C3 Matchmatic that i CLA'd completely myself, the soft lens and the bum film give the pictures it makes a sort of 'vintage' look i guess you could call it. I love me some Ilford xp2 400 to shoot with my SRT201 and the gorgeous Rokkor-x 50/1.4. i dont' know if ilford still makes the stuff, its nowhere on their site. for your regular old color film, i just use joe-blow kodak 200, the kind you could buy at walgreens. Not the greatest film, but trying to find good color films around these days is an excercise in patience. pentax me and the 28/2 get the color.

Also, i shoot whatever 120 i can get my hands on since it's rare to come by, be it kodak or fuji or whatever else. the rolleicord takes them all like a champ though.

The best part of shooting with film, i think, is actually getting in the darkroom and making your own prints though. I love that.

Photography class has made me hate film with a passion since I have to develop everything myself. It's so ridiculous compared to simply uploading something straight onto a computer with a digital camera. I guess developing how the picture itself turns out is satisfying, but it still doesn't seem worth it.

I have a Canon 20D but prefer film to be honest. I've got a few SLR's Nikon, Canon, and Pentax with a ton of lenses I've collected over the years. I own one rangefinder Bessa R3A, Pentacon Six TL, Kodak Hawk Eye Model C, a Holga, and Lomo Fisheye.

I got into lomography for a while but gave it up. I hate the lack of control you have over your images. plus the back of my holga kept on popping out. I did get some spectacular shots but with the cost of film its tough to keep it up.

Camera: Holga
Film: Tri-x
ISO: 400
Shutter: 1/100
Aperture: F/8

Double Exposure used.

You're in the richest part of Australia, I imagine there are many people with enough money to support expensive film habits!

I have just got back into using film. On my 4th roll of this cheapish Kodak ultramax 400, on a Nikon FM from the late 70s. Will be getting a DLSR pretty soon, but depending on how these film photos turn out, I may keep shooting film as well.

Anyone have any colour film recommendations for me? I don't want to be spending too much on it.

Also, how good are the scanners in photolabs? prices seem to vary where I live, should be looking out for anything or should I just get prints and scan them myself?
(seems cheaper to just get developing and scanning done, no prints.)
