Dont be a dick.

If you want some honest opinions you might have to wait around a bit so heres mine to start off.
The general idea is there but the subject is out of focus ( but you should have known that)

Im not a rebel user so I dont know if you can switch the iso but it should have been 400 at the least.

Exposure time was good Could have been dropped down but it looks like you have shakey hands considering the blurrs at 1/1000th of a second.
Take hundreds of shots during a shoot. Dont stop at all ever.
ANd finally the saying that has been QFT'd a million times
" Be your OWN worst critic"
Judge the shit out of your own photos before letting anyone else see them.

>Im not a rebel user so I dont know if you can switch the iso but it should have been 400 at the least.
Do you honestly think that Canon would have made a digital SLR on which you can't change the ISO?

Also: He was shooting at 1/1000th of a second, with his lens at the wide end. Why should he have bumped the ISO any higher?

Focus looks off... Try getting a shitload closer, and then use the flash for fill against a background like that.

Pic related of course.

Bad advice. Shoot a lot. Waste card space. Etcetera etcetera. That's all well and good. But be meditative about it. Walk around with the camera in your hand and the strap around your neck or wrapped around you wrist. Eyes open. When you see the moment coming, shoot. Holding the camera to your face and just slapping off shots for the heck of it isn't a good idea, except in the first few minutes of shooting that day as a warm-up.

Like the shot, too bad at 1/50th its pretty hard to keep a uniform pan on the rider going.. (They don't follow a nice easy line in corners either..)

No, but I really wanted the hard blurred background, and I think that the motion shows good action, yet doesn't detract from the subject as a whole. I shot a few at faster speeds, but it just didn't get the effect I was going for.

Similar shot, different bike.

With a fast shutter speed and your aperture wide open, you should get the sharp subject and background blur you're looking for... if I'm understanding this correctly. A higher f-number will sharpen up the background.

im thinking he wants the motion blur, not the blur caused by the shallow dof.

Ya, I usually never go slower than 1/60, But sometimes I mess around with a Rear Synced flash and something really slow, Its fun to do but you need REALLY dark lighting, and a powerfull flash.

Gonna agree with this guy, Shallow DOF looks quite a bit different from Motion blur. (pic related)

Maybe I should, Though maybe that involves waiting till next summer, and driving over 400km to the closest race track.
So in the meantime, I'll survive on Skii pics and Other sports.
