how do you guys shoot with flash?

For big enclosed areas where i'm a distance away i like to set the flash to manual, piont the head at about 45 degrees, and set the camera for 1/60th and then whatever aperture i need to get the correct exposure.

picture vaguely related.

All depends on what kind of camera your using, but I use bounce flash. If you're using a point and shoot it isn't easy but you can still try a slight downward angle, it'll cut down on shadows. If you're using an SLR buy a flash, don't complain about price; do it. Buy a cable for the flash hot shoe or a wireless transmitter and hold the flash off to the side. It's a lot better than direct flash. Check strobist.com for information on flashes and lighting.
