Nikon 18-200mm Anonymous
I've just bought a Nikon 18-200mm and its heavier than my D40. Holding the camera without a hand to support the lens, or whilst the camera is attached to a tripod, will the extra weight cause damage to the front of the camera where it's connected?

>18-200 + D40 = overkill
How so? The 18-200 is pretty much targeted exactly at the market segment that buys D40s.

This lens is all anyone really needs. Anyone who tells you any different is a measurebator who is more interested in gear than actually taking photos.

Well the D80's is cheap as hell. I got a 18-200mm to my D80, and it's fantastic as an all-round lens.

What the hell do you expect people to do? Go out and buy loads of lenses that they don't really understand what they do or why they need them?

Much better to have something like this that can cover loads of use until they are confident in making other choices

And until they understand what they do or why they need them, they should stick to their Kodak Easyshares instead of using their allowance to buy a DSLR they'll just put up on eBay in 2 weeks.

It's fine to hold your camera via the lens. I always use my left hand to hold the lens, right wraps around the body.

I do this, to. I thought that was considered the best, most stable way to hold a camera, and the normal way, too.

I hold it like that anyway, feels more natural - my main concern is that when its on a tripod the weight of the lens isn't putting a strain on the lens dock

in during/before d40 bashing, and in before 18-200 is crap

Well, That may be, but at least I still have my handy dandy tripod.

I had an 18-200 sigma, shit sucked. My Canon 28mm is worlds better.
