Hay guise, another question about aperture. In a fully manual camera, do you prefer the aperture control ring to 'snap' into stop steps, or do you prefer it to be unnotched/fluid?
>> Anonymous
I like it to snap, personally. As silly as it may seem, sometimes when framing a picture, I confuse the aperture and focus rings if the aperture is fluid. It's just nice to have that distinction.

Snap definitely. For the reasons anon pointed out and I sometimes increase/decrease by "clicks" rather than looking through the aperture window thing (which I often forget about).

Yep, I like the clicks.

clicks ftw

Okay, also, are clicks usually in thirds of a stop, halves, or full stops?

Depends on the lens, but usually they're full stops.

Most of my manual-focus glass (for my Minolta) is in half-stops.

Does shutter speed go up by halves though?

Depends on the camera.

Aperture control rings. Too difficult for you to understand?

Clicks in full or half stops are good. No clicks means it gets knocked out of place all the time (goddamn Leica why didn't you think of this in the 40's) and third stops just get annoying.

Ah, I see. Missed it, since aperture is quite an important word in photography. I've also played Portal, but>>173333showed a very good example of what just happened.

Definitely snap... I had a lovely 28mm F/2.8 MF lens a few years back which had different-feeling "snaps" for half and full stops... and it was beautifully sharp... damn thing got dropped into the dead sea in Israel... oh well

Chances are, if he was visiting Israel, he's Jewish.

Also, blame God for gravity. Then thank him for you not falling into innumerable subatomic particles due to its lack.
