fuck yeah /p/ is back.

Anyways, I made another purchase here in japan land while you were gone.

My girlfriend is actually starting to get really pissed at me for spending so much on lenses... ha...

Anyways, I bought the canon 80-200mm 2.8 L lens for about 150 dollars american.

My first L lens! Woo!
I did my best to check it out thoroughly and have been taking quite alot of pictures with it, and so far the only thing I can discern that would devalue it so much is that it has dings on the outside of the body...

Anyways, I will reiterate, go to fujiya camera in Nakano and go to the junk section on MONDAY (this seems to be the day they update.) awesome stuff.

I bought the same lenses in good conditions for US$80bucks.

really? from a store?

Searched the internet everywhere, it seems like the asking price is anywhere from 500-600 dollars, if you can even find one at all...

Hell, I saw another one with the limiter switch broken here selling for a 1000 dollars.

Is that Nakano, Nagano-Ken or Nakano in Tokyo?

Nakano in Tokyo. Nakano also has a pretty decent otaku area as well, but that's not all that photo relevant.

Also, I've been taking pictures with this lens all day, so I'll be posting some pretty soon. Hopefully.

Anyways, this lens is a real joy to use. HEAVY AS HELL THOUGH.

It's like carrying a tube of iron around your neck all day. Which, as far as I can tell, isn't so far from the truth.

And here are some photos. Taken with a rebel xt at 400 iso and the 80-200 2.8 L lens.

so yeah. Have a billion more, but you probably won't even look at all the ones posted already, so I'm sure that was enough.

Great lens. You could kill someone with it fairly easily.

What exactly does an L lens do, in laymens terms?
>> Anonymous
>>85244

It doesn't do anything different. I mean, it's not like IS (image stabilization), or USM (ultra sonic motor).

It just means that it's REALLY PRICEY and that it uses the highest quality materials and stuff.

They have more and better glass inside of them, and they are put together better as well.

blump.

An L lens has to have at least one fluorite or ultra-low dispersion element, and probably has a really fast aperture, weathersealing, USM, and aspherical elements as necessary.

To make you want it, it's purely marketing.

Doesn't have to, just usually does. There's no one thing that makes an L lens an L, it's just Canon's highest quality, no-holds-barred lens line.

>>85392
They do have to have to have one of the first two (fluorite/UD glass), or else it isn't an L. That's why there are kickass lenses that don't count as L, like the 85...1.8, was it? and the 50/1.4. Those designs are simple enough to be made well without exotic glass, so no L for them.

While it may be true that all L lenses have those features and that no non-L lenses have those features, it doesn't follow that (Flourite OR ultra-low dispersion glass) == L.

L is just Canon's really expensive lenses. The 85 f/1.8 can be made high quality for reasonably cheap, so it doesn't get an L. The 85 f/1.2 can be made high quality, but it ain't cheap. It gets an L.

If Canon figures out something that'll blow UD glass and flourite elements out of the water, Ls will start using them. If Canon figures out how to make UD glass and flourite elements really cheaply, non-L lenses will start using them.

Is the afore mentioned store in the Broadway Arcade, or the surrounding area?

>>85528

it's to the right of the broadway arcade.

Like, a minute away from it, but not inside of the covered area.

I'm sure if you keep asking around for it someone will tel you where it is...
