there was this thread maybe a week back about the 200mm f/1.8 lens

so i was just wondering what's the longest lens in the so pedestrian aperture categories?

like what's the longest f/1.2 lens?
f/1.4?
f/1.8? i think it's the Canon 200mm f/1.8
f/2.0

thanks dudes

If we're talking SLR (current and non-current) lenses only, AFAIK it's:

Canon 50/1.0
Canon 85/1.2
(Tie) Nikon/Canon 85/1.4
Nikon 300/2 ED
Sigma 200-500 f/2.8

why exactly did you list the 50mm 1.4 rather than the 50mm 1.2 L?
>> Anonymous
canon doesn't make a 85/1.4

1.2 yes, 1.8 yes, no 1.4

Excluding cine lenses, nonphotographic optics, and other such mess, including all usable on 135-based still without insanity or really limited use, for instance macro only.

.95- Whichever is longer between the Leica and Canon fifties, my guess would be the Canon, since a longer lens would be easier to correct and they had lesser technology, but who knows.
1.0- See above, but reverse the names.
1.1- Two 50mm Zunows and a Nikkor.
1.2- Kilfitt 240/1.2, covers 6x9 if you want it to, too.
1.3- Kilfitt 180/1.3, same.
1.4- Dunno.
1.8- Etc.

For other applications, there's tons of weird ultra-fast lenses: a fixed focus, 1:1 Repro-Nikkor 85/1.0, a 75/.85 Leica Summar for shooting x-rays and as a cine projector lens,

because 50mm is the longest 1.4 and 85mm is the longest 1.2

ya know, like, totally, THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS THREAD?
