So /p/. I always wanted to go to Chernobyl.

How well protected is it? I wouldn't want to be on a guided tour, is it possible to break in?

I've heard there are rangers there, are they dangerous?
>> Anonymous
>is it possible to break in?

You're an idiot.
>> Anonymous
>>232246

Why? It has a "security perimiter" I'm well aware of, but it cant be that well guarded all the way around.

If anyone could give me a coherent answer on why I can't break in it would be fucking helpful, calling me an idiot is not.

I know of security and I know of radiation hazards. Why else shouldnt I?
>> Anonymous
id say death by radiation poison is a pretty good reason but if you really need one, the cloverfield monster lives there.

>> Anonymous
>>232256

Geiger counter is an obvious necessity... the majority of the dangerous radiation is buried beneath the soil, walking through is not really much of a hazard these days.

>>232258
I'm not being a cool bitch, I've done my own research on this. The radiation isn't the biggest threat I just want to know how dangerous security is.
>> Anonymous
>>232253

No one is saying you can't. There is the question of whether or not you should 'break in'.

I suggest you do some real research on Pripyat and the effects of radiation before you even consider this.
>> Anonymous
>>232263

I've been interested in the subject since I was a kid. Its been something I've wanted to do for years.

I know about the effects of radiation full well. I'm willing to break in (not alone), I just wonder if anyone here knows anything about the security enforced.

To elaborate:

No, seriously, *breaking in Chernobyl*? What the fuck would even give you the idea to go past some military guards, probably with shoot on sight orders, into the site of the worst nuclear accident in human history?

Oh that rights, vidya games. Got it. Go right ahead, all you need is your PP7. You can grab extra ammo from the officers with their DD44 Dostoveis!
>> Anonymous
>>232266
Fuck off, you're not providing anything useful.
>> Anonymous
The larger zone of alienation is rather poorly guarded since it's very big and not really dangerous, at least if you don't settle there. The reactor itself and the neighboring area are under constant watch, though (this includes the entire town of Pripyat, which I imagine is of the biggest interest for you)
>> Anonymous
>>232268

I wanted to go there long before STALKER existed. Fuck off.

Its a 30km zone, pictures of perimiter (including the fucking entrance itself) shows that its not heavily guarded everywhere. I severely doubt that there are patrolling military covering it.
>> Anonymous
>>232272

Thanks, I didn't know that. I wasn't planning on going anywhere near the plant itself but Pripyat is a bit disappointing. Smaller villages are an interest as well.
>> Anonymous
>>232277
Why not just get a guide so you can go into Prypiat? Seriously.
>> Anonymous
>>232277
In the "big" zone, the security isn't a threat if you don't get caught at a checkpoint upon entry. However, there is a risk of running into a bunch of armed poachers/scrap hunters or a pack of boars, which can be far less pleasant.
>> Anonymous
>>232279

Because I don't want a guide around Pripyat? Costs money, I have my own reasons for not wanting that.

>>232281
So I've heard.
>> Anonymous
>>232283
Unless you live in the Ukraine it's going to cost a not small amount of money to go anyway.

Legal defense can also be expensive.

>>232285

Ohoho. Sure. I know it costs a lot to go to Ukraine, but paying for a tour on top is also less than fun.

I'm well aware it isn't a fucking game. Fuck you, go die. I don't plan on going near Pripyat anymore.

I don't know where you pricks seem to get the idea that my intention is to dodge guards and duck under cover when they start up the machine gun fire. I just want to take pictures and have free roam of parts of the zone.
>> Anonymous
>I'm willing to break in (not alone)

who the fuck are you going to go with?

id love to see pictures from there. if you go they better be worth it. you have to have ALL your shit in gear not just your camera shit you need to be really ready for this shit if its going to happen. i wish you luck if your actually thinking about doing this but i cant see it happening.
take the tour, atleast to start. then if you really want to try to brake in youl have an idea of what your up against.

Thanks lol. I have a fellow photographer friend who I've been discussing this with for a long while. We both really would like to go through with this.

We're definetly aware we need preperation, I know its not an easy thing to do and I know its not exactly safe but we're working on that.

As far as I've heard, the reactor itself (and probably some other highly contaminated sites) are under CCTV surveillance. The rest of Pripyat isn't hard to get to, as long as you do some research and don't jump through the very first hole in the fence you find. There are some people that specialize in illegally getting people to most interesting parts of the zone (for a hefty sum, of course; something like $2000 from what I've heard).
However, remember that you're facing a $170 fine just for breaking in and up to 5 years in prison if you're caught trying to sneak any objects out of the zone.
>> Anonymous
>>232295
Thanks, I'm not so sure about Pripyat as of now, we'd have to take into consideration the security. Anywhere we want to go will have to be planned out judging on security measures I think.

and lol, the only thing I plan on sneaking out of the zone is photos on my CF card ;)
>> else !L6xabslN96
i think you can just get a few passes. you're going at your own risk, they really wont give a shit. there will a lot of wildlife and even some locals and squatters. a lot of the buildings apparently have geiger "clocks" indicating the radiation levels.

i don't know how their gun laws work, but try and take a pistol with you just in case. otherwise, the usual camping gear. even try renting a dirt bike or something.

as for the nuclear plant itself, i think its completely out of bounds for everyone but you can still take shots from far. besides, i dont think you wanna go inside...

also, watch out for bandits and rabid mutant dogs. good luck, stalker.

>> lehesai
I guess you'd still need a local to guide you. Or at least someone who actually speaks russian, if by any chance you run into some trouble. I think the guys at pripyat.com could help with that.
When where you planing on going? I was planing to go to Pripyat at the end of the next year... May be I could tag along with you guys.
>> Anonymous
>>232313

Well why not? lol. We were planning on learning Russian basics, we're not entirely sure where we want to go yet. Into the zone is a given, the safer larger zone itself. We'd have to investigate the security in places like Pripyat.
>> ???? !I4IrJba9Qw
I wouldn't advise to break into Chernobyl for health reasons, just get permission and take a guide who I know what he is doing.

Also I would like to go to Chernobyl.

>>232313
I don't think that there's a lot of security. There are however checkpoints on all roads leading to Pripyat and the reactor.
So I'd really stick with a private tour guide if you're planing to go to the reactor. And it's really not that expensive. You could always tell the guide what you want to do and where you want to go next.

Plus for me, the areas around Pripyat, aren't that interesting. There's not much to see there. The city is worth exploring tho.

the security have shoot on sight orders if u are carrying a weapon. also if u get within so many yards of the actual reactor. as for actual security screen its light into the city tight around radioactive hotspots. take a few 100 dollars with u in case it got me out of a few tight spots when i went to russia and the ukraine. take the tour then go urself thats my best advice

I know what he means. The police are pretty dodgy and corrupt in Ukraine and Russia. Having some money (especially good dollars) can get you out of a tight spot with them.

Don't fuck with them though. You're a long way from home and some of these guys are psychos.

Well OP , you're not alone, that is one of my to-do list in life. And there are tours to Zone so you can get there legally. Read more here: http://www.carlmontgomery.com/faq/

you only need to say you work for the media/news agency of some important country and they wont touch you, they will of course restrict your access to certain places tough.
>> Anonymous
I've been there, took a guided tour.
If you really wanted to, you could break into the zone. there weren't that many guards around. the few I saw were sitting inside the security checkpoints anyway.
the guide also said that the only thing the security were alowed to do was to escort you out and call the cops.

only place that you would have problems getting into is the actual plant, there were guards and stuff. but for the rest of the area, we didn't see any sign of security personell.

also, the radiation levels were really low where we meausured, pretty much no diffrence between concrete and tall grass either so camping there could probably be done as long as you don't dig around and get the soil on your stuff.
>> soulr !lK4GD5SleY
>>232414
Also fake a news agency card( not hard), this will probably get you out of a tight situation with them if your dollas don't, they got no way of immediately check validity unless they are willing to go trough lots of russian bureaucracy, they will just play safe and leave you alone, but under watch. at this point you should leave asap, they will probably take your equipment also.
>> Anonymous
>>232423

Not a bad idea. Better you lose your gear than some Russian cop goes nuts on your ass.
>> Anonymous
i know OP didn't want to spend money, but if you really want to roam freely inside the zone, i think all it takes is some money.
after all, this is in ukraine, it's a very poor country.
