I think it's one of the best cameras ever made. The only downside is the weight, but unless you're planning on doing long distance backpacking with it, it should be fine.
The control layout is the best I've ever seen on an AF SLR. The AF is fast and accurate, despite being old. It's fantastically reliable. It has great battery life, and uses AA's so you can buy replacements just about anywhere in the world. The metering system is excellent. As I said, just about the only downside is the weight.
I bought one used about four years ago and it had been very abused when I got it. It was obviously a pro's old workhorse as just about everything was very worn. The paint was all but gone, most of the markings were worn off, it had an assortment of dents and scratches, the eyepiece ring was broken off, and it still worked like brand new. Since then I've run probably three or four hundred rolls of film through it without issue.
