Sup /p/, i was wondering if you could recommend me a pocket-sized P&S camera that:
-Has a wide lens
-Fairly long zoom
-Good picture quality in dim light
-low noise

Now, i was first set on the Panasonic TZ5 with that lovely 10X zoom but i've looked at about dozen reviews and personal testimonies and they all say it takes really noisy images. So then i look at the reputable Canon cameras, but not one of them has all the features i want (ex: good zoom but no wide lens, or wide lens but grainy pictures)

I know it's asking a lot, coming from a compact camera, but i seek your wisdom.

No pocket-sized P&S camera has good picture quality in dim light, or low noise. Nature of the beast.

My girlfriend has that camera.

I guess i'm not used to p&s, but the noise is incredible.

Oh, besides the Sigma DP-1, but for that much money, you may as well get a dSLR and get even better image quality, and a lens faster than f/4.

When do you think they will be able to make pocket cameras with dslr quality?

I'll put it this way. By the time pocket cameras are to the point where dSLRs currently are, where do you think dSLRs will be? This is simply the compromise you make with miniaturization.

If you want dSLR quality from a pocket camera, get an Olympus XA or Ricoh GR (the film versions) and scan your film.

I look forward to the day we mock P&S cameras because they're still noisy at ISO3200.
