I don't normally do shots like this, but I was actually trying to emulate one of my favorite flickr photographers, moaan. Of course I don't have the beautiful noctilux that he does, but the telephoto still produced some beautiful depth of field. Your thoughts?

For being a cheapo Tamron lens, it really does have pretty nice bokeh, in my opinion.

I really want a medium format camera if only for the lovely aspect ratio. My crop reveals my envy. :(

Thats bad bokeh actually, See the rings around the out of focus lights? Thats bad, Donuts are bad, you want diffused spheres

People don't know what bokeh is because everyone uses the term incorrectly, It is not just out of focus parts of the picture, Bokeh is a measure (however subjective) Of how the out of focus elements are RENDERED, as in from a neutral circle to a diffused point to a bad donut.

Saying a lens has a short DOF and "bokeh" are 2 completely different things

Also first pic is too busy with greenry, if you want to highlight the flowers get a lower angle and cut off the green below them.

Last one for the time being. I just posted way too much green, so have some blue!

Ahh, good to know. I didn't know that distinction about bokeh. I was merely referring to the fact that it -was- circular, as opposed to on my 50 1.8, where they often become pentagonal.

Heh, I definitely would've spent longer on that picture and different perspectives, but that was actually taken out of my passenger side window while I was at a stoplight. I got maybe four frames, then the light turned green. *addicted*

Also, since apparently flickr strips EXIF and I'm too lazy to open up Aperture (and I have to take off from work soon)...

Nikon D50 with a Tamron 28-200 f/3.8-5.6.
The flower shot and marble shot were wide open, and the rest were at f8. I've found the lens is sharpest at that aperture.

I love the hell out of the blues in this picture.

You can get an old TLR for pretty cheap to try out medium format. That's what I did. My Yashica A was like $27. Of course, then I had to buy a $180 scanner to scan the film that it uses...

I have more money than sense.

Incidentally, I also hate when lights turn green when I'm trying to get a shot. One of the reasons I love my SLR is that that happens slightly less than it did with my old, slow P&S cameras. With my girlfriend would drive more...

Over time we all realize, taking pictures from a car is basically hopeless, You never get any Landscape or Artistic keepers, I've shot thousands of pics from my car while driving or as the passanger, and the only ones I keep are the "photojournalistic style" ones.

This has been my experience, too, but I still try.
