these pictures aren't bad considering you're just starting out. however, less boring photos would help. no one cares about leaves, some tree in your yard, a feather or a light pole. also, basic components of photography; rule of thirds, leading lines, etc.

you really need to take pictures of things you actually find interesting.

Also work on your color and exposure. If not when you are actually taking the picture, at least afterwards.

Thanks for the tips. I know I don't have the most interesting subjects, there's not really a lot to see around here :-/

There's always something to see, no matter where you are. If the big things are boring, try macro stuff. Just wander around stuff, looking if you can find a decent shot.

That looks scarily like just outside my house...

Where is this? I'm concerned.

Well, that's mostly what I've been doing, but macro stuff like feathers and leaves aren't much more interesting than the big stuff (unless I just haven't learned how to make them interesting).

The pics I posted were from the last 2 weeks. I've got a bunch more that I took yesterday (before I made the post, but I hadn't sorted through them yet), so I'll probably post a few of those later if I decide they're any good. There are a couple of my house that I think would be alright if it weren't for a little bit of junk laying around.

I'm also pretty ignorant about what exactly to do in post-processing. I mean, I know how to adjust color levels and all, but I don't know what I'm really aiming for. For example, the edit of my leaf picture looks a little better than the original at first, but the original is honestly more like it looked in real life (it was dusk). Even in a picture that I thought didn't look quite like it did in real life, I wouldn't really know exactly what to do to it other than fiddle blindly until it seemed to be fixed.

No way, there are trees outside your house too?? (It would probably look less familiar to you if the trees were more than silhouettes, but I'm not sure how to make a shot come out that way nor that it would be a good thing.)
