Gonna say D60 with the kit lens. N00bs really like the long telephoto lenses, but the 18-55 range covers about 95% of your average shooting. If it was the 18-70 you'd be up to 98%.

There is no advantage in getting the D60 over a D40. Get the D40, but don't forget you have other brands to consider too.

Get the d40 without the 55-200 and save $$

yeah its about $100 less without the 55-200 but i really like the versatility of multiple lenses. i've been using my girlfriends K100D with an 18-55 & 55-200 for quite a while now and i've got used to the flexibility.

fast lenses are much more interesting (to me) than long lenses... get the d40 and sigma 30mm 1.4. 50mm AF-S just announced also, although 30mm is more useful to me on a 1.6 body.

At this point, while i'm still learning i'm shooting a lot of stationary things; nature, skylines, etc.. At this point action shots with lightning fast shutters aren't necessary.

Thanks for the advise everyone. I guess that the consensus is that the D60 isn't worth the extra money. All the reviews i've seen online seem to echo that as well.

It gets away with being shitty by being really cheap. The D40x and D60 have no excuse.
