35mm macro Anonymous
35mm macro, isn't that an oxymoron lol
>> Anonymous
Not quite an oxymoron, but certainly unusual. It might be called "macro" just because it can focus closer than most 35mm lenses, but if it's an actual macro... hmmm... I wonder how viable it actually is. If you have to get so close to get a good shot, wont you be blocking light off your subject? You might have to use lighting (I'm aware flash is often used for macro).

Tokina and Nikon need to get with the times.

Gold lettering? Come on, it's 2008.

Not just that, it's in a serifed font too. Shit's trying to make Times New Roman with italics fashionable, and failing.

its an actual macro.

was announced fuckin ages ago, interesting to see they went through with it...
when i first heard about it i thought it was a tad odd-ball but now, price and IQ depending i think it could be fun to use, and of course if it has a macro's flat field of view/focus and smooth image quality it could be nice :)

Why is it odd? It's meant for digital, where it's a normal. Plenty of 50mm and 55mm macros for 36x24. Shoot, the first macro for 35mm still was a 40mm.

They're not exactly the same, but they're very similar and it's generally accepted that the designers shared their work. Both Pentax and Tokina are owned by Hoya.

>Shoot, the first macro for 35mm still was a 40mm.

And how does that make it good exactly?

You just need a right-sized sensor.

And anyway, 35mm on APS = 50mm on 35mm film. There were a fuckton of 50mm macro lenses in the film era.

The longer the macro lens in in focal length, the more you need to have extra equipment to raise the magnification.
