I just purchased an Olympus OM-1. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Would anyone recommend it?

Really solid mechanically, tons of really cheap, pretty high quality glass out there. Good buy.

I have the Olympus OM-10

I have only put ~20 or so rolls of film through it but I like it. I have two other minoltas (MD/MC mount, one's sort of recent for that series, the other's very old) and I probably prefer this one in most situations.

The only downside to my camera is the placement of the manual shutter speed adapter. I don't think you have that problem, I can't see it in the picture. The shutter speed dial is hard to grip, difficult to turn and feels like it'll fall apart any second.

I like the frame advance on this one, it's smooth and just the right size.

Have fun with your OM-1!

Oh yeah, signed for what this guy said. There's some very nice lenses out there for dirt dirt cheap. I got a beautiful 50mm prime, a nice f3.5-4.5 70-210mm and a fixed 135mm telephoto plus a bag full of accessories and cleaning shit for $60 at a local pawn shop. All the lenses were in great condition, the 50mm was probably never used - there were no visible scratches on the lens mount.

OP: Thanks for the posts! I'm looking to get into developing my own pictures. Could anyone recommend a photo enlarger? Or anything else for that matter?

It's a great camera. It's just rather difficult to load the film/can be.

old olympus glass is my favorite. I really can't say enough good things about it.

Fuji Velvia's pretty awesome if you know somewhere that'll do slide processing.

also fuji provia, if you want something good. It isn't as colorful a velvia, but it's a good start if you want to experiment. It's also my default film if velvia isn't available/sold out.
