its a compression format designed to replace .gif, would you use that to store a photo?

jpeg > png

PNG is a great format for its intended purposes, but photographs aren't that intended purpose. For work on the web, jpg files are standard. For other purposes, tiff, psd, dng, and other raw formats are preferable.

Butterfly is so great at regurgitating info found in other threads.

Although you would need to be an idiot not to know about PNG vs. JPG.

exif please

what else do you want to say, this is just simple copy pasta. Do you want to see the massive shitstorms /g/ used to have over it?

A 90% jpeg wont be any worse than a 100% png but it will be massivly smaller, since you are posting rez'd images already you are compressing, why would you bother with a losless file of a compressed source?

oh and png doesnt have a set method for storing EXIF, forgot about that.

idk, my pictures seem so meaningless. i need some themes, or areas of interest, rather then a scattered assortment of photographs

oh and borders = fail.

I gotta say, a 25 (or under) pixel white border is perfect for any image. These double and triple borders are distracting, but the small simple border is fine and effective. Anything too large or with more than one kind of matting distracts the viewer.

on an image board like this, where the full image is opened in a new window/tab, having a white border is a waste of space as the browsers will automagically give it one.

Boarders have their place, especially if you want to add a photocredit or email address on your photo. Put it in the boarder instead of ON the photo.

You're absolutely right, it's not all about the camera. It's all about knowing how to work within your limitations. There's tons of free info on the web about how to properly compose and design a photo, and plenty of relatively cheep books that will do the same for you. Read up on those first.

Just as a pointer, in the first pic the front flower is cut off. Why? It makes it hard to tell which flower is the focus.

The second one is slightly out of focus and the blown highlights mess with the picture a bit. In this case, though, it kinda works, though I'm guessing you didn't do it intentionally.

Take a bunch of pictures. It's a digital after all and costs next to nothing to do. Look at which pictures you like and then figure out why you like them and no others. Also compare with photos you see in magazines, ads, here, etc.

once you get used to analyzing your photos, you start to worry about the issues before hitting the shutter, and will start taking fewer bad pics and more good ones. Repeat the process and soon enough you'll have a pretty good idea of what you're doing.

I agree with you, on 4chan it's not needed but I post my images on other boards with other layouts and backgrounds.
