Ello /p/.

I need crits plox. Facing critique in class on Friday. The borders and the link on the bottom right obviously won't be there, they're just for the online versions.

The dude is me in this one.

Last one. The assignment has no real theme, just working on a portfolio for my final grade. Let me know what you think.

OP here, I should also mention that they were taken with fiji 400 speed color film, then negative-scanned.
>> Anonymous
regardless of theme required or not, there is a strong theme through these.
they all look like they could use a little straightening though.

Distortion is obvious on here, may or may not be as obvious in small prints.

Lose the borders.
What kind of camera were these taken with? If it were my grade I would have sprung for slide film, at the very least some kodak portra. I would definatly not expect these to help land a job if they're in your portfolio.
The reflections of the light are distracting in all of them, to much is washed out in>>119804and>>119806

Don't know what to say, they look like long exposures inside a library. What were you trying to convey?

>>119805
perhaps the theme was distracting lights in the frame.

if they werent so badly blown it wouldnt be so bad.

>>119805
also, i dunno but i just dont like this one.
it seems to be missing something, but i cant really put my finger on it?
perhaps its the weird level of saturation? not well done, but not de-saturated enough maybe?

otherwise cool shots.

>>119803
Only shot remotely close to nice is the first pic. The rest looks like snapshots taken in a library, that's it.
DROP THE FUCKING BORDERS AND DEVIANT ART LINK. It's frikkin' pretentious. I'm glad it's forbidden in our classes to do so, and I heartily agree.

Also, don't use crappy film. Also, lrn 2 use polarizer.

Did you guys even read the description? The borders and link aren't there in the versions I'm turning in, they're just for online. I'm not being pretentious. How else am I going to expose my gallery more?

>>119821
It's the Eastman School of Music. I'm not really trying to convey anything, I just thought it had an interesting interior.

>>119817
I can see where you're coming from with the distracting light, but in my defense, my TA said the lighting was "very well executed" in others extremely similar to them, so I tried to repeat.

>>119817
Since I'm a freshman I'm expecting to produce far, far better to replace these in my portfolio by the time I'm actually looking for a job.

Thanks to those who were actually being constructive.

We're 4chan. We *hate* deviant art-- the most exposure to your gallery you're going to get from us is trolling for being faggy enough to post photos with a deviantart link/watermark on them. They may work somewhere else, but NOT here. I'm not being mean or trolling, i'm being honest. See it every day when someone's crazy enough to post their deviant art in here.

>>119803
Reflections of the lights in the window is way, way too strong & distracting.

>>119804

Not bad, but i'd like to see your feet. I'd also recommend cropping off some at the top- the arch doesn't help you, and the photo comes off as being distorted.

>>119805

best one IMO.

I've noticed. So out of curiosity, why *do* you people hate DA so much? It's got a lot of mediocrity, but there are some really decent photographers and artists on there, too. It's a wash, but so is anywhere on the internet you go.

Also, thanks the suggestions. All considered.

>>119921

I'm not a fan of sites that lay claim to your work simply because you posted it there. Don't know if they changed that ToS, but I don't really care at this point, either. Also, too much drama-whores come from there, it's almost as bad as furry.
>> Anonymous
>>119921

It's a massive mess of faggotry, where a lot of people think they are "artists" because they can draw(badly) narootu. All forms of work with just even a shred of artistic merit is ignored in favor of inu-yasha and myspace pics of emo dumbfucks.
>> Liska !!LIVFOETqL8j
>>119921

being Deviantart is so full of artists wanting to be artists-- and people coming in thinking they're the next big thing (with egos to go with it). At least, that's as far as I can tell from all the DA people coming in and out of here. I've never bothered to go to anyone's DA--the layouts too much for a pain in the butt. Flickr seems to work better on here, for showcasing stuff.

best of luck on your project

wow, you're only a freshman and they're already letting you shoot color assignments?

my main critique is that all of these photos suffer from sloppy execution. photos that SHOULD be symmetrical are slightly asymmetrical (>>119803>>119804), just to the point of annoyance.

>>119806

this one is tilting to the right, and is that your backpack in the corner?

>>119807
>>119805

these two are good enough. they're not knockout photos, but there's nothing technically wrong with them. reshoot the rest of the series, though. you're using print film, so it shouldn't take you more than a few hours worth of work.
>> OPFOR !8vKpfCqy8A
>>119912
Thats good that you are a freshman. It gives you time to grow. Stupid question but are you going to school for photography or general leaning of media arts?
>> ac !!VPzQAxYPAMA
Huh. I think all of these photos are great, personally. Looks like I'm deep in the minority.

Hai guys, OP here. I went out and shot more today, did a few more self portraits. I kept in mind a few of the suggestions given here.

I took others too, but the ones that came out best were my self portraits so I'll just post those ones.

None of these really strike me as being that cool. The first is the best, I guess, but I want to lol when I see it, rather than appreciate it as art.

sorry.

Good luck to you. These sets I feel are pretty uninteresting and I would recommend that you do take more shots of different subjects.
