Dear /p/

Last night I dropped my lens cap on the ground. No big deal you say? Well, said ground was particularly dusty, and now my lens cap has a gritty feel/sound to it.

I cannot see any visible grit inside it, but of course I can't see all the internals of it. It's a 72mm Nikon (LC-72), does anyone know a handy trick for fixing this, or am I up shit creek?

Canned air or air compressor, or straw and blow really hard.

What's the worst case scenario? It makes noise when you take it on or off and maybe drops a few pieces of dust onto your lens a couple times a year?

It just doesn't sound like something that needs fixing, but if you think it is, AFAIK you're up shit creek.

I just gave the straw method a shot, has made a marked improvement. When I get home I might get the can out and give it a second try, but thanks for the seemingly obvious suggestion!

stop using a lens cap

start using a uv filter

So after you put your camera in a bag, what do you do about the scrapes and scratches on the front of your UV filter? Lower your photographic expectations?

is your camera bag an iron maiden?

Is your camera bag made of teflon?

on TWIP, they talked about using a UV filter in place of a lens cap.

That way, you don't have a useless UV filter for your photos, and if you are rushing to get the shot in the moment while you are walking around, then you can just pull out the camera and start shooting.

According to the search tool on TWIP, there is no such article. Perhaps it was covered in a Q&A or the comments... Can you provide me with a link please?

I use a Hoya UV and a lenscap on mine... call me paranoid, but I like my unscratched glass

just leave your lens cap on when you put it in your bag jesus!

put your lens cap in some water or something and scrub it with a towel if it still sounds like theres sand in it go buy another or just use it.

this thread is fucking retarded.
