ITT We Post Our Best Nite Shots Anonymous
This topic is all about night photography.

Side Topic:

What I've noticed is that it's a lot easier to shoot when there's less activity (interference.) Something that I'm always cautious about though is that if I decide to take a photo of a building at night that I'll get hassled by some cop under "suspicious activity." You see, there's this really nice train station near where I live and I've always wanted to capture it at night time. How would /p/ go about this without arousing any unwanted attention?

As long as you are polite it shouldn't be a problem. They're just doing their jobs. The worst that will happen is that they will ask you to leave or perhaps a "warning". It's one of those things you get over after a while. At a certain point you can't escape dealing with people.

When I took this at a Light Rail station I was approached by security. Turns out the operators of the trains call in people hanging around stations. I was nice to the guy and he let me continue going about my business.

(sorry about the .png I can't save it as anything else)

you like ur tunnels hey,
quite good
no decent critique from me though except for the weird lighting could be adjusted with white balance to eg. tungsten or natural

I haven't done it yet myself, but the ideal thing to do would be to get a freelance press pass.

If you are planning to do a night shot at a train station i think youll be fine as long as you have a nice tripod and maybe a little portfolio of your work that you can show if anyone questions you, but the tripod should be proof enough that you arent planning terrorist action.

A portfolio? It seems like a bit much.

If anyone asks, just tell them you're taking pictures. There's nothing weird about photography.

Chances are you don't look suspicious, so don't act suspicious and then you won't be suspicious.

My father was shooting some pictures with one of his friends at a chemical plant a bit south of where I live. They were standing on the street, outside the fence, technically on public property. The security guard of this complex came up and told them they were not allowed to take photographs. Evidently, the security guard took my dad's business card, or his license plate number, or something like that, because the FBI showed up a few days later to question my dad.

The worries (in the US) about terrorism are causing a lot of strange things to happen, especially to photographers. My father looks more like Santa than anything else, he's over 50, and yet there was still sufficient worry over him taking some night shots of the chemical plant.

All that to say, "Be careful."

Whoa, the background looks unreal as if this is located in a cave above the clouds. I'm guessing this is a beach?

>>62039

See, this is exactly what I was talking about. Although I don't look anything like Santa and I'm clean-shaven, I have to say that I've been hassled at least twice so far. I'm not doing anything wrong, but I get hassled for taking photos of buildings and public areas. Train stations and airports are two of my bigger concerns as far as photography.

Fuck it, let them hassle you a little bit. Personally I don't let this terrorist scare bullshit get in the way of my photography.

I haven't done much night photography (and my photography overall is mediocre at best) but I do kinda like this shot.
