The first thing I did with my Mac was upgrade the RAM. The second thing I did was replace the mouse.
I've used Lighroom for a while on my old Laptop, and have found it hard to use it again on my Mac after trying out Aperture. I feel like the flow of the application, exporting, and the managing of my images are a lot easier.
Regardless, as far as the editing of your photos, you can't go wrong either way. Just make sure your laptop has the umph for processing. As for a particular recommendation, I have an HP that has a SD card slot, so look for something that will make your life easier. A slot, small size, processing power, it depends on who you are and what you do.
