Who uses vertical grips? I'm thinking about getting a MB-D80 for my D80. Worth the money?

i've got a Hoodman vertical grip for my D70, not that i own 2 batteries or even need two, but just for a little bit more stability with my telephoto lens

Does it help with portrait shots?

I has an EOS 350D with the E3 grip. Makes little 350D look BIG... my girlfriend still manages to hold it upside down.

not with the D70, as it wasn't ever designed to have a vertical grip.
but my F5 has a built in vertical grip and it really helps having the extra shutter button on the vertical side for portrait shots.

They don't make any vert grips for mine. it sucks. not that I cant deal with the shutter button on the right side when I turn the camera though

I love my grip. extended battery life, easy portrait shooting, and it makes my 5d look even more bad ass.

Sucker for buying a sony DSLR!

yeah cause the minolta lenses i use arnt amazing or anything and the camera out performs everything else in its pricepoint...

im bitching because sony are moving to the high end instead of the low end which makes loads of sense but just sucks for poor people like me.

bought one.
sold it. makes you look fuckin wannabe unless your using a 1 series/ or big nikon or some fuck off lens to justify the extra holding area....

got sick of the size, ive never had problems with battery life and i hold my camera in portrait with my fingers up and the shutter down, so much easier, like holding a soccer ball on the tips of your fingers then support lens with the other hand.

I accidentally bought an Olympus E300 with a battery grip once. The whole thing was rather comfortable to hold, the battery life was infinite, and it looked like ZOMG PRO, but holy shit it was HUGE! It didn't fit in my camera bags except in the biggest one, and my neck hurt after walking around with it.
So I sold it (for more than I bought it, lol) and kept my other smaller camera. I don't shoot that many frames in portrait orientation, and as for battery life, I'm not a sports photographer who doesn't have time to swap batteries.

I have a MB-D80 attached to my D80 at all times. It helps with stability. I don't use the buttons on the grip, since they feel awkward for me, and I can't access the rocker pad (and other controls) easily when holding the grip for portrait mode. Now, if it was anything like the Sony A700's vertical grip...

I haven't really heard much about vertical grips for a K100d. I read about one, but it connects through the PC interface on the side with some wires or something, which seemed pretty crap to me.

I wish I had one for my camera. I love using my paper's D2x and D2h because of the built-in grip. It makes handholding shots so much easier, and handling longer telephotos is a cinch. It's basically completely fucking awesome and I totally advocate it. Of course, not great for when you want to be inconspicuous, but that's why God made rangefinders.

I have fairly large hands so I like the extra height the "vertical grip" gives. Of course, this is on a D1x and I don't have the option of leaving it at home when I'm only using short primes. Heavy too, but good to have when using stuff like 80-200 2.8 etc

I find the extra comfort, longer battery life and extra shutter button very convenient. Worth it for the money.

Having just gotten the 56 flash for my (beloved) A100 i am now really wishing sony made a vertical grip for it. Even with the lightweight kit lense on the strain of holding it in portrait is massive and after a night of shooting (4+hrs) my right hand felt bruised from the weight of it. I dont want to try with one of the heavier lenses!

So any recomendations for A100 vertical grips?

I'd LOVE an A700 but its around 1kgbp (2k$) for body alone and im already poor!

I got one for my 350d just so I could use the handstrap. Having your camera in your hand, ready to go, without having to clench your fingers around the grip all the time is great.
