Hi /p/.

Total DSLR noob, but still managed to pick up a D40 recently for a good price. Yes, a D40.

Some shots I took in Berlin this week. Nothing special, but could I have some rip 'n' tear please?

Kit lens on all.

I would have preferred you focus on something further away. The one where you focused on a tree looked interesting with the different lights and I would have liked to have seen what that actually was.

Otherwise, not bad. How much did the camera cost you?

This one is kinda boring.

>>96405
This one lookg good, but I get the feeling that the foreground object would be blurry as fuck full-size.

The other two are quite good.

could have done better, you just dont have it in you.

sell your DSLR, buy a digital P&S and waste the rest of the money somewehre else.

also these are what? 4 sub mediocre pictures out of the other crapy 500 you took?

/b/ is that way

OP, just keep playing around with the settings and try to get as many shots in as you can. When I was looking at your photos I thought about how I, if I was using a DSLR, would have taken the same images at different focus levels just to have them on the computer when I came back. I think that's part of the benefit of having a DSLR over a regular old SLR. I'm stuck here with a decent SLR that costs cash to evaluate when I want to see each test shot that I made, so at some point I can't afford to mess around.

I guess what I'm trying to say is... DSLRs give you the luxury of testing things out. Use that luxury!

i dont think he will ever take better pictures if you guys just keep trowing him warm water.

go ahed, treat him like a baby and watch him settle with this shit pictures hes taking.

my advise to the OP is buyng a film SLR camera and fucking learn and think before taking a picture.

Yeah, but telling him that he "just doesn't have it in him" is elitist and just an asshole thing to say. If you want, you can just as easily say "your photos suck and you need to do everything differently" and at least then you wouldn't give him the impression that he should just give up.

>>96441

if he REALLY likes it, he wont give up based on what some idiot said on the internet.

A: Sounds like someone's speaking from experience.

>>96442

B: You're wrong there. Criticism can be taken and improved upon, but to say he should stop completely is fucking retarded. He asked to be torn apart, but that hardly warrants saying, "Don't bother. Stop photography."

Everyone starts somewhere.

I definitely like this best, and there are a wealth of things you could have done here.>>96430is right about taking advantage of shooting digital to see what you can do. maybe adjust the quality of the picture down while playing around, then take it up to "fine" when you know what you want.

also, because you don't have to worry about film, take pictures of *everything* both horizontally- and vertically-framed so when you self-evaluate later, you'll be able to see what works best to get images that you like.

missiles kill.

oh look i must also be speaking from experience there.

go BAAAAAAWWWW somewhere else mr.lawyer, this is a imageboard on 4chan.

sorry. but no!
its blurry and partially out of focus(OOF) and those lights at the bottom are distracting.
lower the camera a bit and use a long shutter to get maybe light trails and more interest at the bottom of the pic.

>>96406
i wouldve liked more face on the left. made it properly in focus.

>>96407
its nicer, maybe a bit more contrast and a lil bit more depth of field(DOF)

>>96408
yea its alright but i wouldve focussed a bit further away. why not on the box at bottom center? but it does have nice OOF highlights surprisingly for the kit lens. maybe a slight desaturation with a lil' contrast boost?

shoot raw and post process.
its your best friend for digital!
