So /p/ I need opinions.
I will be going to Philippines for a vacation this December and I can't decide on what to get. I will also shoot a wedding for fun. I want the 55-200mm VR to compliment my kit lens but I also want the SB600. Thing is, I am broke so I can't get both but was thinking of the Gary Fong Puffer to use for the wedding. Which one should I get?

What the fuck is the puffer? is it that thing on the inbuilt flash?

that is a bit of a hard choice...

Having the speedlight means you just have somuch more option with lighting, the inbuilt flash is essentialyl useless except to trigger the Sb-600... i'm not sure but i have a feeling that the inbuilt flash will cast a shadow on every photo due to the size of the 55-200.

Getting the speedlight and having the ability to refine contorl of lighting (with the help of a diffuser if needed) is what i would personally choose.

... would you need the 55-200 for anything else?

Yeah, the puffer is that white thing on the on-board flash. It's supposedly a good diffuser for the on-board. I generally think I'll just need the 55-200mm because of vacation shit to zoom and all. Sight seeing probably and to shoot high ISO'd volleyball while I'm still here.

Oh and I meant using the flash with the kit lens only. So I don't think there'll be any shadows casted.

Nikon SB-20, seriously
You could get it for a little bit more as the Poofter (or less, depending on luck and location). It's got five thyristor modes, five manual modes, is dedicated (lights the flash light in viewfinder when ready) and is pretty powerful for its size.
Another good-un to look for that's usually super cheap because it's so old is the SB-15. The 15 only has two Auto modes, however. Manual fires full out, MD is about 1/10th power. I only use MD to trigger other strobes, generally.

These vintage speedlights work as great on digital as they did on film, don't let people convince you that you need TTL flash.
If you really want a poofter, use a paper napkin. Snake it through in between the arms of the built-in flash while it's up and tie it back. Don't drop $20 on that thing.

Or just get some thin paper, tear off a strip of it of a good size to fit around the pop-up flash, and tape it together into a little ring, sort of like those paper chain links that little kids make. No snaking around or anything.

i'll go for the flash. I think you'll make it with the kit lens for your travel pics, but not in the wedding without a good flash.
