I hate to scan color negs with 8400F. I just have no idea how to get the color "right". I basically use photoshop's auto tone... any better ideas what to do? :-D

Tamron 70-150 f3.5 is such a fine lens.

Massive CA's. Soft. Distortions.

Well.. at least it was free ;-)

At least film is easy after you've developed and scanned it (supposing you know how to scan properly.. :).

Add sharpening, resize and you're ready. No need to spend years in PP.

Digital just doesn't look the same.

Also I've tried to simulate the look of film for ages, but failed so far. It's lot easier to shoot film than to sit endless hours in front of my computer.

While I agree that is is very difficult to get an authentic film look out of digital, it isn't impossible to get something that replicates it. I'm afraid your attempts aren't very successful. You'll can't really replicate stuff like velvia, but setting up a photoshop action can make stuff look filmy in a matter of seconds.

I really like this shot :)

As far as the film look, i tried that Alien Exposure stuff. Works really well, IF IF IF you shoot the shot right.

It's more about how digital and film respond differently to light and colours, know what i mean? If you're to expose a digital shot in the right way, it makes conversion to film look much easier...

don't ask me what that correct way is though... i've just been lucky and hitting and missing

I've tried alien exposure too. I could only add grain and some contrast to my photos, not any special "look". Maybe it depends on the settings I use in raw converter etc.. some day I'll find the right way :P

I looked through my old scans. Seems there is difference between "sharpening"...

.. and REALLY sharpening the shot.

Oh fuck it. I was wondering where the heck the NOISE came from?! And then I read this:

http://www.photoscientia.co.uk/Grain.htm

Afterwards I noticed, that because scanner uses same CCD bayer filter type sensor as my dslr, it produces same kind of demosaicing errors (jaggies, maze artifacts etc. etc).

...

What the hell. Luckily photoshop can get rid of the color noise and most of the jaggies.

These two are nice in an abstract sort of way. The rest are kinda snapshotty. Reasonably good snapshots, but still snapshots.

How about this... does this look anything remotely close to film?

The original...
