ITT: /p/ shares their wealth of knowledge on macro photography. I have a sexy camera, Olympus E-300 Evolt, and want to do a bit of macro...but don't know the first thing, and all the tutorials i look at are a bit confusing.

Please share any knowledge you have, w/o linking to outside sources thanks.

bump, any help? Just basic shit?

It might be better if you specify what parts of the tutorials are confusing rather than asking for general tips on macro shots. As far as I know, get the proper lens, shoot at the proper distance to maximize effect, and... (more or less)... profit!

Using the basics of lighting and composition, you want to focus on textures and small details. In this way, macro shots are interesting to me.

textures prove stuff. focal length important. but composition hard

set up your shots where things will be still, or have someone hold the branches still. there is nothing more frustrating than trying to take a picture of a bug on a gently waving blade of grass.
