what's up /p/

i have a 400D and the 85mm 1.8 lens which is absolutely amazing for image quality

i've used it recently for a basketball game indoors and had to shoot in 1600 in order to get motion free images

i thought, better noisy than blurry

am i pixel peeping too much or is this as good as it gets for a camera like this?

This won't be noticeable on small prints. I'd probably run it through some noise filter to kill color noise, it will give a more pleasing grain-like look.

hmm, i've used ACR's noise reduction

but i think i'll keep it like this since removing the noise too much loses details

Removing color noise doesn't destroy much detail unless you really overdo it. Removing luminance noise, however, should be used only as a last resort.

Absolutely amazing and horrible CA in the middle of the photo doesn't work together.

Undersaturated image is undersaturated.

Lighting in those indoor gyms is a bitch for WB. Something to do with the alternating color temps of the lights. Best thing you can do for that is shoot RAW and fix it in ACR. And that isn't CA.

Have your local shop print one up for 19 cents and see how it looks. Ultimately, the noise doesn't look too bad.

People pixel peep on their monitors, but on a print certain types of noise will just disappear. Pick a few shots out and print them for a few bucks.

You'll be able to see what shows up and what doesn't.

Hell, I shoot concerts and shit with natural light, so i bump it up to 3200. you have to go into the camera's override settings to get that.
