**other thread is a 404, weirdly**

Hey, /p/. Is there a poor (wo)man's way to capture movement (in a studio/home setting) well without a strobe?

And, is there any way to speed up an increasingly slow-writing SD card? Mine's been getting worse and worse lately.

Picture unrelated. Just a messed up self portrait.

Oh, and now w/ resized.

Strobe is best, but you can have some improvement by increasing your ISO.

Slow writing SD card? Reformat it. Your camera will be able to do that. Keep in mind that formatting will erase whatever is on the card, so copy off all your pictures first.

Well aren't you mister executive decision?

The picture, as I said, is unrelated. It's a placeholder, just the first thing I saw. It's only there because I needed an image. I don't think it's good and I don't want critiques. Jesus, doesn't anyone read?

Right, but if there's not enough available light to boost the ISO and still get decent quality photos, I can't do that. I don't really have any studio lights, because I don't do photography commercially. I just have regular lamps, lights, and one 500 watt studio light I found at a yard sale.

As for reformatting the card...I do it all the time. Doesn't help much.

What's all the /p/ spam about lately?

Flash and fast shutter speed. The more light the faster you can freeze the image. Upping the ISO helps, but degrades the image with added noise.

Get a cheap third party flash from eBay that you know is compatible or make a set up yourself if you don't mind DIY: http://www.makezine.com/04/strobe/

Glad I could be of help. Always good to see someone take an interest in improving.

Don't worry too much about the cards dying too soon. It can happen and will happen eventually, but either due to being faulty initially and dying soon after purchase or with use and then it's enough to make them still good value for money. You'll be shooting thousands of shots for the same cost as a roll of film and developing. I've had some cards that have had thousands of shots on them over time and still going.

By the time the card dies, they will have got even cheaper and larger in capacity. Don't rely on only one card though, keep a back up in case you get stuck.

I've had mine for about a year. Its write-time has impaired my ability to take several shots in succession (noticeably). It started slowing down after I started doing ultra-long exposures. Would that be "faulty from purchase"?

P.S. Help me speed up my card and I'll be able to take more nudes. :D
