impecable time sr. This is a great looking shot. Great work.

yeah, great timing here..
it's too bad the picture is split through the middle though

The bird is actually distracting-it would look better without it.

Nothing wrong with a picture split down the middle.

Shut the fuck up, OP, you don't know shit.

A picture split down the middle is not always terrible. In this case it is, but it can be pulled off and quite often is. The rule of thirds isn't the be all end all of composition techniques.

I like how the line of the dock emerges from the bottom left, and disappears perfectly into the horizon. I wish the bird was eclipsing the sun, but if wishes were horses, we'd all be eating steak.

The frame is staggeringly empty on the right side, however. Let's see what a crop looks like... little bit of levels, color, and usm work too. You're welcome to disagree, just my take on it. Takes the sun out of the dead center, makes the frame a bit more interesting, and gives you the dead sexy factor of a 6x6.

I dig the crop better than the OP composition (and agree on the dead-sexy factor of pseudo-6x6) but I think the OP image looks better without the adjustments.

much much better
now the split is no longer as ugly at all..
it seems the square format works better with this image

my two cents: more color intensity to distinguish from a random snapshot.

i agree, the composition on the op is a little empty, bird seems flightless and still. with crop leading lines bring eye to sunset and bird and bird shows motion. i don't like the color adjustments as much. i prefer colors at least close to how the camera took the picture in the first place. cool picture by the way.

I agree with your photographic assessment, but have some doubts with regards to your ideas about where steak comes from...
