hey /p/
i could use some tips..

whenever i shoot people that aren't models, i often have a really hard time getting em to feel comfortable.
usually they hold that stiff 'acameraispointingatme' look.
a few days ago i took some photos for my girlfriend's friend....and i didn't really like how they turned out.

also, i just got the 430 EX for free. now i can put off buying the 580 EX II. which is good, because i'm so poor

inb4 beethy is a fggt lol, all he does is talk shit knowledge like hes a pro but he pics are so shit lol. apply knowledge here

It's tough, there's no question about it. Talk with them as you shoot. This is the hardest for me, because my mind is fully engaged with making pictures, and so talking is difficult. It gets easier the more you do it.

Give them something to hold or joke with them. So I've heard online. Meeting with a friend's mom (portrait photog) so I'll probably ask her for tips as well.

I have the same problem, which sucks shit since I have to photograph models on a regular basis.

The only solutions that I've found are shooting a LOT of photos, and trying to find people who are just naturally comfortable in front of a camera.

Like my cock.

Oh yeah..

Yeah.. if they freeze in front of a camera, they're not in the right business.

Every model I had to do were huge attention whores. That's why they're doing it.

Yeah. When you aren't paying for models you get a lot of awkward poses and bad facial expressions.

You're kidding right? Try 5 people at the same time...they are fuckin' caged birds. This is from a Band flyer/cover/whatever shoot from this past friday. Between two photographers, and 1000+ pix I think we have 5 good ones.

I find the best trick for just 1 person is to joke around and make them laugh, with a group you just gotta let them socialize and "document".

As a wedding photographer my pictures ALWAYS come out better when the bride/groom are comfortable with me and joke around and shit. If someone is not comfortable with you, it is SUPER obvious in the pictures.

Get new friends. That are whores. Attention whores that is.
>> hinkss
i usually tell them to find something and stare at it, and study it in the direction i want them to look, and i tell them to avoid the squinting looks

yea i do the talking thing all the time
the guy in the picture only really warmed up after 15 minutes.. the first 40 shots were all shitty.
i'm just wondering if there's a quicker way of warming normal people up..

>>152266
yea lemme know what she says, thanks

>>152271
i dunno, real models i actually shot with never had any issues.. they warmed up right away.

>>152287
hahah man that must've been hard
but yeah, i did a wedding... and the b&g looked much more natural after we actually started talking/drinking
the location was soooo cheap and shitty looking though

>>152294
that i do as well, i always tell em to angle their head differently... because most of the time the front on staring straight at the camera does not work at all.

no need to rush it. they arent models. let them take their path you impatient bitch.

The first wedding I ever did back in 2005 was in a church that looked like a big fuckin Tuff Shed. Seriously lol
>> beethy !HJGkSBB3Ao
>>152335
true... and all that's needed in some cases is time, since these people are not models.
but there are probably techniques out there to increase their comfort which then makes for better photographs.

>>152337
i was given loose stock
canon didn't know what to do with it .. and it was not new (damaged box)

>>152339
