Stages of change:
Precontemplation: no initial thoughts of stopping smoking
contemplation: starting to think about quitting, get healthier/more aerobically fit
preperation: gather things that will help you quit smoking, get leaflets, nicotine patches etc.
action: follow through with quitting smoking
maintenance: join a support group, when you feel the need for a smoke maybe eat a mint/sweet instead, when ever you feel the urge to smoke twang your wrist with an elastic band. This will cause you to associate smoking with a negative feeling.
relapse: you maybe go out drinking with friends, have a cig.
termination: you successfully quit altogether.
