When is the right time to up the weight? Anonymous
On every exercise, I try to go for 6 sets with 9-12 reps in proper form.

But I always wonder when I should move up in weight.

This is because, my first set on an exercise is fairly easy and makes it up to 12 reps. Then when I try to do faster and slower repetitions, I start getting sloppy with the form.

The thing is, everyone probably starts off well with their first set and gets more sloppy with the later ones. So how do you know when you should move up in weight? When you get through 3 out of 5 sets in fairly-easy proper form or what?

I'm glad you brought this up as its a problem for a lot of beginers.

I've found it's best to move up in weight after you can accomplish 12 reps in perfect form for 3 sets. Also, the transition into the heavier weight is a lot smoother if you do it the day after your rest day.

You definatley have the power to move up another 5 or 10 lbs (depending on what exercise you're doing) as long as you're still doing the exercise with perfect form. Get a spotter to watch you so you know that your form hasnt gotten sloppy and you should be fine

Step One: Stop doing twelve reps.

Step Two: Do five reps.

Step Three: Stop being such a pussy and do it right.

Step Four: Get the fuck out of here and practice your form.

Step 1a: SQUAT MOAR

I would love to see OP's list of exercises. Here is my guess:

Barbell Curl
Hammer Curl
Wrist Curl
Standing concentration curl while staring at skinny arms in mirror
Fap Curl
Tricep pushdown

Here's what I do and it seems to be working pretty well. I do 6-8 reps. If I can do 8 reps of the weight through 3 sets, then I up the weight to the next possible increment. This usually causes me to only be able to do 6 the first set, maybe 5 or 4 the next two and I stay with this weight until I can do 8 reps with that weight, etc.

I see that shit at the gym every day and it makes me want to puke. Or lift the b& up and do overhead squats with him.
