I fucking hate these /fit/.

Pull-ups. I can only do about 6-7 before dropping.

What can you do?!

18 at last PFT, 20 or bust ololololo.

Hold up, where is that image from?
>> Anonymous
Is it actually easier to do them if you let your legs just dangle instead of bringing them up with you?
>> Anonymous
>>57650

Umm I googled it. It's from some power athlete site.

I got to 18 from using a doorjam pullup bar and I am tall. What is the source for that picture D:

Why is everybody interested in the picture?
>> Anonymous
pullups dont mean shit when you can do muscleups.
>> Anonymous
>>57656

Ah, got it. I asked because the guy on the bar is a Marine and the guy to his right standing next to mr.clipboardman is Pavel Tsatsouline. I train pullups the way I do because of his method. Went from like 2 to 18 pretty fast, then again, I don't have much bodyfat.

Do that.

12-15 depending on the day. I weigh 236 though, so not that bad!

>>57665
Muscle ups are only impressive if you do it with zero swing, and even then, I'm more impressed with 15 pullups rather than 3 muscle ups.

>>57682
If you don't do any body weight exercises you're a faggot. If 10 is easy, do 15, when thats easy, do 20. There are very few times in life when you pay have press 300lbs off of yourself from a nice, laying position, with your feet firmly planted.

Odds are far more likely one day you'll have to pull yourself up somewhere.
>> Anonymous
21 chin-ups
4 pull-ups

176 pounds, only 125 bench.

>>57697
Fuck, take off ten lbs and that's me.
>> Anonymous
Try a grease the groove plan for 4 weeks. I did mine differently due to time limitations, but every half an hour I was at home, I'd do 5 chinups, I did this for 4 weeks, by the end I was able (after 3 days rest) to do 25+ in a row.
>> Anonymous
>>57697
what's the difference between a chin up and a pull up?
>> Anonymous
wtf is a muscle up
>> Anonymous
>>57709
Pull-ups. Palms facing away. Less biceps, more back. Harder.

Chin-ups. Palms facing you. Work your biceps more. Easier.
>> Anonymous
I do sets of 12-14 pull ups.

25 pull up max as time i checked. Chin ups add 5-10 or so.
>> Anonymous
cant do one... yet.
>> Anonymous
>>57710
Pull up>dip>lockout.
http://www.beastskills.com/MuscleUp.htm
>> Anonymous
6-7 pullups with proper form are more than enough.

>>57690
It's more likely that you'll have to press 150KGs off you from a lying position with feet firmly planted than having to do 20 pullups.

Being able to do one muscle up with no swing perfectly satisfies the whole survival-exercise part.
>> Anonymous
>>57725

When the hell would 300 lbs be on top of you, do you fuck cattle or what? Pullups = high ground = insta-win.
>> Anonymous
>>57725
Well that's assuming that in the hypothetical situation where your survival depends on pulling yourself up somewhere, you are perfectly rested beforehand. If not, you'll want to have some endurance trained into your pull up capabilities. Also, chances are if you're climbing around something to save your own life, you're going to have to pull yourself up more than once.
>> Anonymous
>>57728
Wrestling with someone heavy and strong may well require the strenght to move 150KGs, while I don't see what could possibly require of me to do 20 pullups.

>>57729
Yes, but chances that mastery of the muscle up won't be enough for any situation that can occur to a normal person(hanging from a building, for example) are very slim. Whoever needs more pulling strenght is already doing additional bodyweight exercises(climbers etc.).
>> Anonymous
None of us even get off the computer, we'll never need "survival" skills guys, if you're workin out it's to get bitches or beat up some arsehole who beat you up (that's me)

be realistic, don't say you do parkour, beacuse you'll never be chased by a lion, you just found a more fun way of doing your cardio.
>> Anonymous
>>57738
Maybe not a lion, but it's entirely possible that you'll be chased by the police.
>> Anonymous
You're never going to bench press outside of the work room. Unless a car falls on your chest. Good luck with the 2000 lbs.

Bench is good for ego though i guess and aesthetics.

I'd say being able to carry a person, and climp things easily are going to be useful.
>> Anonymous
>>57739
heh didn't mean to sage that
>> Anonymous
If you're being chased by the police you're fucked anyway, they're not as unsophisticated as people think, not in melbourne atleast.

My point is, parkour saying it's about survival is applicable for the military, that's about it, even then it's only specific situations, it's more about general fitness in REALITY, you know that horrible place we all avoid?

Chinups\pullups are good because they build strong back muscles, a good grip and add some arm girth.

Not because they mean you can run away from the police, because you've been starting too many fights... you're movi- wrong forum, sorry.
>> Anonymous
>>57738
Idiot. Jesus.

Running from people, or the police. Climbing shit quickly and repeatedly. Good luck taking on a taser faggot.

Bench is only good for aesthetics and ego. I do bench, but it's not practical at all.
>> Anonymous
The most real life practical exercises are the deadlift and the push press.

Because you're more likely to pick shit up, and put it up somewhere high, than you are to need to do a muscle up to avoid the powleez.
>> Anonymous
Who the fuck do you think you're running from, you probably spend half your day on the computer.

And if you're running from someone, wanna know what's good? Being a fast, long lasting fucking runner.

Get over your fucking ninja fantasy, you're just another guy, living a normal fucking life.
>> Anonymous
The only realistic applications I see are
1. Climbing Pull up
2. Overhead lift, for work i guess if you need it.
3. Deadlift for moving stones or something
4. Squat for carrying shit on your back.
5. Running.
>> Anonymous
12-wide grip
9-medium grip
7-close grip
all with out dropping down.
(real pull-ups not bullshit ass chin-ups)
>> Anonymous
around 20 depending what other exercises I've done. I'd say 25 is my average, but I never do that much since I think it's not necessary.

>> Anonymous
i do my pullups holding onto two towels hanging from the bar, i do 15-20.
>> Anonymous
i've never done them to failure, since i add weight when i can do more than 5, but the most i've done is 10 and it wasn't that hard
i weigh around 95kg

>>57682
hang a weight around your belt?

>>57697
i'm surprised by the difference in pull-ups and chin-ups

to the faggots arguing about chinups vs bench - you can do both you know

if you've ever wrestled before then you'd know you need strength and endurance in your lats and upper back. yay, pull ups. it's especially important for judo and groundfighting. stop talking about shit you don't know anything about.

and here's a question, why are you comparing an exercise for the upper torso involving compound pulling to an exercise for the upper torso involving compound pushing? where you born retarded, or did your parents just hit you a lot?

and guess what? you can add resistance with plate belts. or weighted vests. or backpacks. jim wendler is a big fan of this. but what would he know. so is charles poliquin. pavel. the list continues.

in short, you're an idiot and your opinions are worthless.
>> Anonymous
I can realistically go for about 20 minutes of just doing pull ups, or at least I could before I started working out. So now I can probably do moar :p

it's all based on body fat %. If you have a big belly and flabby arms, you're just a little girl in a fatsuit.
>> Anonymous
>>58841
20 minutes of pull ups eh? You're full of shit. And my body fat is at 4% so you can fuck right off with that.
>> Anonymous
Funny, I bet my bench is hardly over 130, but I can do a ton of pull ups.
>> Anonymous
>>58849
dude... 4% is way lower than you think.

That's like... tendon striations.
you're gonna want pics to back shit like that up.

dude. I way about 175. I can do between 10-12 and that's my absolute max.

6-7 is a great start.

Try different variations as well. wide arm, reverse grip, commando...etc.

I did 7 the other day when I could previously do 0.
