Hey mis/fit/s, I was wondering if you could help me in doing the most uber of lifts. I am of course talking about SQUATZ.

I'm followed pretty much everything in the Starting Strength.pdf, but I have a problem keeping the arch in my lower back. When it's time to go ass and chest out, my lower back can't get that perfect arch in it due to lower back problems.

It often hurts to stand up quickly and when I run a lot of pressure is put on my spine and it causes me pain in the lower back.

I was wondering what I could do to strengthen my back. I've looked up lower back stretches, but when I do them it doesn't do anything to my lower back. Are there any lower back exercises that don't require an already toned lower back and core or expensive equipment?

Many thanks.

look up and keep your chest full of air

Deadlifts, back extensions, and good mornings for your back. Start light and build up.

A stretch for you lower back and erector spinae is to take an empty bar, not a 45 lb'er but something much lighter, like a wood pole. I digress, hold it wide grip style over your head and slowly try to squat down. You should feel the stretch.

work on deadlifts for now

It's also possible that your hamstrings are inflexible. Stretch everything.

If you're a female and newbie then DONT DO SQUATZ. You don't wana fuck your back up and if have a history of back problems then go to your doctor, seriously

Start with dumbbell lunges, situps, strengthen your abs with crunches, leg raises. Then start squats.
