When does running get easy? I've been running for about a month now, as a distraction from the normal work and school routine. I have friends who (they say) run 8 miles in about 50 minutes. How the fuck are they running that long, that fast? Currently, I can do a 8-9 minute/mile pace for 4 miles, and it's exhausting. So basically, how do I increase my endurance, how do I make running easier, etc?

What is the matter with you? Its been 1 month, keep running. And the answer is never, it never gets easy, if it does youre doing it wrong.

I already did the whole weight-loss HIIT thing, going from 160 to 130. Now I run for the feeling of accomplishment. What I'm asking is if I should increase speed or duration in order to build up endurance?

www.crossfitendurance.com provides one of the better running programs for the "non runner" out there.

do those workouts 3-4 times a week, make sure one of them is a tempo run. you'll get much faster and develop endurance while running fewer miles, believe it or not.

It never gets easier, the biggest gains I ever made running were when I just forced myself to man up and do that extra mile that I usually convinced myself was impossible.

It does get easier, squats truthfully allowed me to raise my pace considerably.

Maybe running just isn't your thing. Try sprinting instead, or just focus on weightlifting/bodybuilding.

Eh, if you have a muscular build it's kind of hard to be a good distance runner. My legs are jacked but they get tired if I do distance running, but I'm fine with that because I'd rather be good at doing a lot of short sprints (which is mainly what you do in sports) than long distance running.

for me, after i run about 4 miles, if i'm not thinking of anything i can go on until about the 14 mile mark. Then i start to feel tired again.
