How many reps/sets are you doing? When I experienced this, I was trying to workout using the "tried and true" 3 sets of 10-15 reps. I spent quite a while doing this, and didn't really seem to get too much out of it. I've changed my workout to be either: <5 reps in 3-5 sets, or reps to failure in 5-8 sets (good for bodyweight stuff). Eg. I would do 5 sets of pushups to failure (30 pushups, 15, 10, 8, 6). Both of these methods have been able to keep my muscles sore for a couple days.
