High Fructose Corn Syrup is a snake. Anonymous
I swear I don't see it once I'm looking on the back of labels at the store, but when I get home, it appears.

I'm going crazy trying to find it in everything I buy. Has anyone just not cared about HFCS, eaten lots of products containing it, and still lost fat, regardless of HFCS's effects?
>> Anonymous
I personally avoid it because the items that contain it typically taste like shit

if I want a coke, I'll get one imported from mexico, where they use sugar instead.
>> Anonymous
ive eaten it....often...and i gained 20 pounds of muscle over 2 years. i havent lost much fat but i eat sweet things once in a while and enjoy myself. still, im like 6 foot 165 pounds.

I'll usually get something like even a protein bar, 100% whole wheat bread and it will have it in there.

It's really frustrating, especially if I've already opened the package and can't return it to the store.
>> Anonymous
honestly, if it's not in the first few ingredients on the list, a little bit of HFCS isn't going to hurt you

holy balls... now I'm off to read labels... godammit
>> Anonymous
Stop eating so much processed shit if you don't want the HFCS.

That's what I'm saying! It's even in stuff that we perceive healthy. You really have to carefully examine the ingredients of everything you put in your care. No exceptions.

Even worse is now instead of sugar the protein bars are having "Sugar Alcohol" instead of sugar. I'm not educated in what sugar alcohol is, but I'm sure it will turn out doing bad stuff like HFCS as well.

alright I'm back... sourdough bread, McCann's quick-cooking oats, natural peanut butter, and tuna are all HFCS free... and my milk, eggs, fruits, and veggies had better be lacking.

yeah nobody seems to get it. Basically only America uses HFCS because of our sugar import taxes. Fuckinjg corporate assholes trying to save money, I've been avoiding this stuff for a year since I looked it up.

it's more about the economic policies of the government with regard to trade than people trying to make money. Although those policies are influenced by lobbying.

Start eating organic. It's even in your bread.
>> Anonymous
As someone mentioned, unless it's one of the first few ingredients they list, don't fret. Shit like coke, which I believe it is the second ingredient, that you should avoid. But, I've been eating at least two slices of Nature's Own 40 calorie bread, which has a tiny bit, everyday and have lost a significant amount of weight.
>> Anonymous
yep, it's in your wheat bread, your cereals, and your so called "health" bars and pretty much almost anything else that's processed. I've even seen it in pasta sauce and that green tea that everyone is buying. And it really pissed me off when I saw it on the label on Cat's Milk. It's bad enough they feed this garbage to the public, now they're giving it to pets and calling it healthy.

If you're really serious about avoiding HFCS you're gonna have to alter your shopping habits. That means just walking past all the grocery aisles and heading straight for the Produce section. If you can find organic processed foods with sugar, or evaporated cane juice as a sweetener, that's fine. It's not good for you but it's not as bad as HFCS.
>> Anonymous
the good news about HFCS is that our investment in corn-based biofuels is making it too expensive, so manufacturers are starting to go back to real (albeit very processed) sugar and rebranding products as all-natural/organic
>> Anonymous
There's no study that conclusively shows HFCS is any worse for you then sugar. Of course, you shouldn't have too much sugar in your diet regardless, so it certainly doesn't hurt to cut back. Don't drive yourself insane thinking tiny drops of HFCS are going to make you fatter.

That said I hate HFCS sodas. Cane Sugar soda tastes so much better.

doesn't mean anything. studies were prbly influenced by corn industry

So basically you're saying, avoid it on unfounded paranoia? Gotcha.

na, jus saying don't trust "studies" financed by those whose interests are at stake on the outcome of said studies. study could be legit but take into account where the study was published and who financed it.
>> Anonymous
>>118846

I'll grant you, but that doesn't change the fact there isn't any proof it's bad. Just don't eat too much of it, just like real sugar.

hfcs is terrible for society because if a plague ever hit corn in this country, about 99% of our food supply would disappear (that does actually include most meat, too, since most farm animals are fed with corm)

avoid studies that contradict your common beliefs that unnatural things are bad? the common trait of a /fit/. let me guess, diet coke is as bad as normal coke, amirite?
