I'll be going to military next year. How should I exercise until then?

I know there's a lot of hatred for it on /fit/, but if you're fit enough, Crossfit mixed in with lots of long distance running will put you in perfect shape for the military.

why is the guy on the left wearing hammer pants
>> Anonymous
The skinny guys were always the ones who outlasted the big 'fitness buffs' in ranger school.
Nothing like taking shit for years for being a slight guy, and running past all the football players as they collapsed under their own weight and lack of stamina.
>> faggot !kzxLmJyzX.
You're going to do alot of running, so logically running would be the way to go. Add in bodyweight exercises aswell.

Best advice op is run your fucking ass off at least a mile a day

A mile a day is for wusses. I'm a skinnyfag and I don't run a lot, but 1 mile is not much, at least for me. And I'm not black.
>> Anonymous
oh yeah rangerfag here again, make sure when you're running you're not doing it in shit $14 Vans. Get something with decent arch support and step lightly as you stride.

The best advice I could give is find a local hike trail, load up a ruck with some sandbag or water content and just do a 10 miler, maybe start on a flat trail with a 5k, slow paced. Then kick it up to 10 mile fast-walk with a ruck. 20mile ruck marches will fuck you up if you go in unprepared. You shouldn't touch a single weight. All ground exercises, marches, pull-ups, and healthy jogging (not lolfast and slamming your feet down).

You'll do fine.
>> Anonymous
If you can't run a couple of miles without slowing down in the military, you're fucked.

Unless you're posted to become a clerk or a similar non-combat vocation.

I'll keep that in mind.

lol /fit/ is full of facepalming opportunities right now
>> Anonymous
Start running now. And I mean now. Work up to being able to run 3 miles easily, then start wearing a backpack with weight added. Keep increasing the weight and the distance.

Do pushups and crunches every day.

Do this for a full year and you'll be able to leave everyone else in the dust.

Out of curiosity, what branch are you joining? Obviously infantry will have different requirements than, say, air defense.

>>240161
Im just sayin what will happen if you go Army. And even if you're MOS'd as a desk clerk or intel you can still get in the shit.
They will set you up to succeed no matter what, its just how easy or hard it is when you go that working out will help you with.
Any other q's let me know while im still online :P

Dont RUN with the ruck on. March first. Save your back for when you're running to stab Haji in the face. Trust me. You're going to be wearing 80lbs if you're infantry, 35-40 of IBA, 20 more if you carry a squad bag, 30 more if you are an RTO.

I weighed 155 when I was in Iraq, and I was the team radio officer AND medic, almost carrying my bodyweight on mission. Trust me, if you dont HAVE to run AWAY FROM SOMETHING, you dont want to do weighted runs, you will fuck yourself up. If you do, you better have been marching for a few months with weight on to get your body acclimatized, and you better start with about 15-20lbs on your back.

>>240164
I don't fucking know. Now I'm scared. All you told me to do was SQUATZ. That was all I did. Now it's 3 miles. I can run 1 mile at most without getting a heart attack. Goddamn you /fit/.
>> Anonymous
>>240179
lol NEEDS MOAR SQUATZ
>> Anonymous
>>240177
Yeah, I should maybe have clarified that I meant light weights. I figure he's got a year to prepare, so running with weight isn't that unreasonable after a few months. First throw a full water bottle into the backpack, after a while a pound of sand and so on.

Always start from zero and progress slowly.

The way OP writes tells me that he's probably being conscripted into an army that is not currently at war. I could be wrong though.

BY MARCH YOU MEAN JUST WALKING AROUND, RIGHT?

This is exactly what I hope I'll be doing. I'm not American but tell me anyway how long did the medical training took you? Did you go to medschool first and then to the military or military paid for your medschool? Tell me everything.

In order to accurately simulate your future life in the military, wake up at dawn each day, make a tight fist, and punch yourself directly in the dick. This will help prepare you for the rigors of military life.

I went through a three month course, but I did not deploy with the military. I was picked out of a military unit to serve with an other government agency crew.
The 3 month course was considered faster than the military version. From what I'm told theirs is about 6.

Could you tell me more about the training? What did they taught you?

Much basic first aid, advanced first aid, like improvised airways (tracheotomy). How to administer IVs, burn care, bone breaks, concussion CNS damage, paralyzation, eye injury, etc etc.

Also, a lot had to do with new first aid technology like QuickClot and Hemacon. We learned how to locate and stay bleeding on critical arteries like the cor. artery and femural, etc etc.

Mostly basic paramedic and trauma care with some limited surgical ability.

There is much more to it, but how much medical trauma jargon will you understand :P

It was just a very small part of my job there, but I am certified as a paramedic now back home :]

Which is never.
To give you an idea
Here's a group from Iraq. Most everyone you see is current or retired ranger/airborne/SF.
The blurred group is us, just about all of which have made it through some of the more difficult courses the gov't has to offer.
There is only about 1 big guy in the whole group. In the military, the guys that work hard are tiny because its 140 Degrees (50C or so) and if you are running around in that weather, you will not keep weight unless you are eating 10,000 calories and drinking a gallon an hour. The ones that are huge are the ones sitting in chairs or riding around in humvees waiting to get shot or blown to hell.

If you go there slim to begin with, your body is accustomed to it and you do well. If you go there being muscular and bulky, you will lose 20-40 lbs off the bat and your body will need to become accustomed to working with less, this makes it a much bigger challenge.

Thats all for me, good night.

Hey, i want to be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan as an officer in the Army or Marines. I plan on applying for officer candidate school. I want a guaranteed deployment --I need to get out there. I'm currently learning Farsi and Arabic on my own, and can speak pretty good Mandarin. Will the recruiter deliver? Is there a way to get guaranteed deployment to Iraq of Afghanistan?
>> Anonymous
>>240405
If you want to go SF, ask him (army) about an 18X career pipeline.

If you want to use language skills, get into MI (intel) and get trained as a HUMINT operator. You will get a cash-money clearance, possibly get sent to DLI for Farsi (although if we pull out of Iraq I'd start learning Dari for Afghan, were not leaving there), and you get to be a cool guy. Just as cool as SF, only with more specialized skills that you can market when you decide to get out or get a medical.

It's kind of hard to be an SF guy, get medical boarded out and then try to find a good job when all your resume says is 'Really really good at killing people'.
Im really leaving now and its getting off-fitness topic so if you want moar e-mail.

>>240409

Thanks for that, friend!
>> ??????????
You won't need Farsi much unless the US invades Iran, though it's closely related to Dari and less so to Pashto, both of which are spoken in Afghanistan.

Iraqis speak Arabic, which is completely different.
