So, calorie counters/fitness journals. What does /fit/ think of them?

I just started using one about a week and a half ago and I've noticed that I've eaten a lot less and generally healthier. I've been eating simpler, healthier meals often because I can't be arsed to put in some complex concoction of foods. I suppose it's the information, the potential to track goals and the constant feedback that helps me stay the course, though it has only been a week and some.

Do any of you guys use them?

You could eat a ton of some things and still have eaten like nothing, calorie-wise. For example, I have a bag of frozen broccoli in my fridge. 1 1/3 cups is 20 calories. There's 8 servings or so in the bag. Eat the entire bag, 160 calories.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum right now, the "don't give a shit about what goes in or how much, and don't have a clue to boot". I've always had great metabolism and no need at all to track my diet from a weight perspective.

In fact, I still don't, but I know it won't last forever. The counter is a simple and hands-on way for me to learn how to eat like a regular human being. If I think I'm taking it too seriously in the future, I'll ease off.

Though, to be fair, I can already feel the OCD creeping in. I was at a pub with friends and all I could thinking about for the first 4 pints was the calories.

Damn, you guys are right.

What works for you, is not necessarily what works for others. Sorry to be the one to tell you. Most fatties have NO IDEA how much food they actually eat because they don't bother to "add it up".
