Hey /fit/

Are there any other remedies for shin splints other than lots of ice, tapping of legs for support, shoe inserts, and Nonsteroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs?

Also how long does it usually take to heal shin splints?

I'm currently recovering from shin splints myself... all I have done is taken ibuprofen everyday, stretch, and rest. To stretch, sit with your legs straight out in front of you and take a belt or your hands and pull your feet towards you. Another stretch is to stand at a wall or a door frame with your foot against the object in a diagonal matter, then lean forward.

It's my third week and my left leg is OK now but my right is still a bit painful. I should be back to my regular cardio habits within 1-3 days. The time for shin splints depends on how you treat it, but I imagine it's averaged from 3 to 4 weeks.

Would protein and milk help at all?

I know shin splints are caused by inflamed tendons; would the protein and calcium help heal it? I mean, it is the middle ground between the bone (calcium) and the muscle (protein), or am I way off in my theory?
