Hey /fit/, question for you guys:

I'm not fat... I think I might be 10 or 15 pounds over my ideal weight, but I wear it well on most of my body.

BUT, I have something of a gut, potbelly, beer belly, or whatever else you want to call it. Is there anything I can do to specifically target reducing my stomach size?

I thought about situps/crunches, but my stomach's not really a hueg ball of fat. I can tense my abs and feel the muscle right there half an inch to an inch below the skin... so I don't know if building muscle there would help me lose the belly or not.

So tl;dr: what sort of exercise and/or dietary practices could make my gut go away or get smaller?

No such thing as spot reducing fat. You can target muscle growth but not fat loss, so if you do crunches without general fat loss exercise you'll just have abs under the same flabby belly.

tl;dr EAT RIGHT AND ALL-ROUND EXERCISE DUZ THE JORB.

Thanks. I sort of figured that was the deal, but it sort of seems counter-intuitive that spot increase exists, but not spot reduction. :(

OP here. Sorry guys, I haven't been in /fit/ very long or very often. I didn't mean to ask something that gets asked a lot.

And for the record, I'm willing to do the work, I just wondered if there was something specific I should be working on to get the results I want.

If you don't like it, complain to God or science or whoever. :(

Yeah, yeah. Both God and Science have stopped returning my calls.
