Dear /fit/,

How to gain weight (muscles) when you don't eat meat? Do you have some recomendations for me, coz I hate to be on the same level as I was 5 months ago. :<
My workout: 2-3 times a week, mostly routines that involve multiple muscle areas (bench, deadlift, dips, chinup, blabla) some specialized (biceps, triceps).

tl;dr: I WANTS MORE MUSCLES!

Whey protein & beans! (Beans if your vegan, they're about a 1/4 protein)

15% of your calories should come from protein sources. There are plenty of food sources that provide this besides meat. The idea that meat makes muscle is a sort of magical thinking.

Ah, a vegetarian! I have encountered your sort among the Hindoo of Her Majesty's holdings in the East! The Hindoo often turn to a mixture of legumes and dairy proteins to build their bodies, and Hindoo wrestlers are living proof of this method!

I understand that now-a-days one may purchase powders made up of whey and casein, by-products of cheese manufacture! These concentrated proteins may provide more than enough material for the growth of your muscles!

Refried beans
Peanut butter
Dark green leaves in salads (not lettuce, like baby spinach and stuff)
Whey protein if necessary (I don't use it)

Idiot.

You can eat meat, AND you SHOULD eat meat. Not eating meat is not "common sense".

its tough to build muscle if you dont eat meat. Basically that leaves whey and soy products, both are available in shake form fortunately. Have one for breakfast and one after a lift in addition to your solid meals. No meat takes some of the fun and variety out of the process, but if you live near a Trader Joes or something you can get protein rich anything. I once had a bag of chips and a piece of soy pita from them that had a total of 55 grams protein, and took me like 4 minutes to eat.

Whey Protein. Vegfag here, and I've noticed more gains in the past month on it twice or thrice a day than I did just eating beans and eggs. Fish helps too, if you eat that.

Just because you believe it doesn't make it true. Different people have different opinions. Welcome to existence.

There are a number of reasons and facts to back up both sides of it, and it is probably one of the things you shouldn't discuss in small talk or in public along with politics and religion.

Just because nothing is stopping you doesn't mean there's no reason not to do something. If everyone did everything they could do just because nothing was preventing them, we would have gone extinct ages ago.

Given that humans need B12 from ruminants, originally ate animals to maintain protein levels in diet, and have the teeth structure of omnivores, at this point the only possible justification of a vegan diet is moral or ethical.

So, yes, absolutely it's opinion.

Saying that humans should eat meat isn't an "opinion". If I said ice cream was delicious, that would be an opinion.

But, humans evolved to eat both meat and plants. We're omnivores. Look it up from any non-biased source (a.k.a. not PETA or any other ultra-liberal animal rights organization) and you'll see.

Refried beans
Peanut butter
omg those are the worst sources of protein. First "fried" is bad, and then it's fried again? That's disgusting. That's.. that's like junk food-- fast food, etc, it is disqualified. Secondly, peanut butter is least effective source from nuts. Any other nut butters are better. But they do cost more usually I think.

protein combining. that's what you need to know about to get protein without meat. legumes, oats, whole rice, whole wheat, etc, the whole spectrum can be combined in certain sets of twos usually to make protein that works.

Just know this: protein has like 9 pieces that make it up. it doesn't work if you have 8, you have to have all of them. they're called amino acids, and each has a name Histidine, Leucine
Isoleucine, Lysine. Whatever-sine. They all end in sine, well, except one.

they're all present in meats. there's usually about two pieces significantly lacking from any non-meats. combine and it works.
