Hey /fit/. I've just started to get into working out and such - I've never been a fatass but I'm in much better shape - and I've been wondering. I don't want to put on masses of weight and gain huge muscles like all the famous bodybuilders we know of, but I still want to be strong, obviously with some definition. I know this is possible - Bruce Lee is a good example, he was very strong but he was still pretty lean, and I know he lifted pretty heavy weights. How do I accomplish this, /fit/?

You're not going to get huge by accident.

You don't. You obviously know nothing about working out. If you want serious advice from here, you better at least know the very basics. Get away from here and read a little about powerlifting and bodybuilding, then when you realize how retarded your post was, THEN you can ask questions and get real answers.

What these people said. You're not gonna get ZOMG XBOXHUGE the day after you go to a gym. Those guys you see all huge and ripped are eating huge amounts of protein, lifting many times per week, doing a minimum of aerobic exercise and are trying to bulk up. It's not exactly easy to get like that.

Trust me, you don't gain 10 pounds after doing a couple squats.

OMGWTFBBQSAUCESPLOTIONPONIES WHY DID I WORK OUT SO HARD NOW I HAVE TOO MUCH MUSCLE

seriously dude wtf. you know nothing about lifting. for what you want, you're going to be doing the same thing as everyone else trying to get muscle: eat, lift, sleep. You just won't be at it as long. Once you reach your goals, then you'll be happy. You won't just suddenly surpass yourself before you know it. It doesn't work that way.

That said, your post embodies everything i hate about people who know nothing about lifting. eat shit and die, etc.

just as everyone said: you don't "accidentally" get huge fucking muscles and look like those pro-bodybuilders. it takes alot of hard work and dedication to get where they are at.

the ignorance that spews from your post is the same ignorance that drives people who truly want to be healthy and muscular insane.

now, go and research on how to diet and workout to get the best results for thin-average build people. and the next time you even THINK about spewing the same retarded bullshit out of your mouth again that you posted in your original post, think of this quote:

"Beware the battle cry of the gym pussy: 'I dont want to be big, I just want to get toned!'" - Big Red

trust me, it applies to you.

It would take you a combination of things. First you should make sure you don't over eat. Many meals give you a bigger portion of food then you actually need. It can be surprising how little (in quantity) it takes to fuel the body. Second combine your exercising of aerobic activities (to burn fat), and light weights (activities using your own body resistance usually works well - to give you shape/definition).Pitfalls people encounter are doing anaerobic exercise (where you workout too quick burning oxygen and sugar) instead of aerobic (where you can breath/talk while doing it and burn fat). Overeating and lifting heavy weights will add mass, and require more hard work to prevent it from turning into fat.
