Another fatty here Anonymous
Hey guys, I'm really fat and don't want to be fat anymore. I think I'm in the 5'9-5'10 area ( don't quite remember ) but I'm positive that I'm 258. The only problem is that I've been doing long 2 hour walks, and I heard that was bad ( I've lost like 4 pounds last week doing it ) and I might be in what you guys call "starvation mode" or whatever. I just don't eat lunch. I don't exactly choose not to eat lunch, either. And I'm not sure of my calorie intake.

Anyway, is there any way for me to lose around 100 pounds during this year without going to a gym or doing rigorous muscle training? I don't really have that much access to a gym but I'm willing to put in a lot of cardiovascular work.

It can't be worse than doing nothing.

Walk is a good option if you do it everyday, but don't expect to lose 100 pound either. In fact, don't expect to lose anything, see better health and boost in self-confidence as main effects, and weight loss as a 'bonus' so you won't be tied to your scale .

First of all, the most you can possibly lose in a week while dieting and exercising in a healthy manner is 1% bodyfat. So for you right now, that would 2.5 pounds.

For eating, try to get in 5-6 small meals a day, steadily decreasing your carbs as the day goes on. This way you have most of your carbs at breakfast and no carbs at your last meal. Also try to eat a good protein source at every meal, if not most. These include: chicken, beef, eggs, fish, whey powder. Calorie wise, you should take in about 10*bodyweight, so you should have around 2600 calories a day in order to make a deficit. Your body will get used to this, however, and eventually slow down the fat burning. In order to counteract this, at the end of each week, have a high calorie day, one around 12*bodyweight, or even as high as your maintenance level. This will keep your body from slowing down.

Now as for exercise, since you don't have access to a gym, weight training is out. You can still do some sets of pushups and situps a few times each week though. For your cardio, trying doing it 6 out of 7 days of the week, and for each session, just go 30 to 50 minutes, but make sure during the whole time that your heart rate is up between 130 to 140 (prime fat burning range). And see what options other than running are available to you.

I can't help you much with what kind of workout would be good and healthy for you, considering I hardly ever do sports (Yeah, I know).

I can give you advice anyway, but from a different point of view. I'll leave the physical stuff to those who actually know what they're talking about. I'm more helpful when it comes to psychology.

1. From what I can see, you're not very organized. I'd recommend you to go see an actual doctor and talk to him about the kind of diet and workout you need, then talk to the people on /fit/ for additional tips.
2. >100 pounds during this year
That's a somewhat big goal. Why don't you set yourself smaller goals that you can reach more easily? It's way more satisfying to see steady progress. Why not try to lose 1-2 pounds a week? Basically, that's the same goal, but you'll stay motivated a lot longer.
3. Challenge yourself every day. Don't always do the same routine, because people tend to get bored after doing the same thing for a long time. If you manage to 'win' the challenge, then treat yourself to something nice. I don't mean "Go to McDonalds". I'm thinking of something you like, and that isn't endangering your diet. Maybe a small bowl of grapes or something of the like.
4. Take it easy. Losing weight shouldn't be a task, it should be something you WANT to do, because you want to be healthy and fit. Don't do it for anyone besides yourself. After all, you're the one who has to live with your body.

On a side note:
>"starvation mode"
This is unacceptable. If you want to eat less, that's fine, but by starving yourself you're hurting and punishing your body more than you're helping yourself lose weight.

OP Here:
I'm not starving myself, I just don't eat lunch. I thought you guys would consider it starvation mode.

I suppose setting smaller goals would be better.

Thanks for the advice.

Because you're such a fatty, I'd be better for you if you did some low impact cardio instead of walknig or running. Invest in a stationary bike or something like that so you don't kill your knees with all your fat.

yes he is right. Jogging or walking puts stress on your knees.
Swimming and biking are better choices.

Run every day for 2 hours. Don't let the number scare you, just start running and when you can't run anymore stop running and start walking, but walk ONLY until you catch your breath, then run again.

Do that every day of the week, every week of the month, gradually increasing your condition and running more.

As for diet, don't skip meals, eat maybe 4 times a day, but don't eat junk or sweets at all. Eat normal meals, just avoid white bread/white pasta/pizza etc. and don't be too heavy on meat.

Running is to be done with the least amount of food in your stomach as possible meaning as close to waking up as possible.

From there it's all about you and your willpower, don't restrict meals but do restrict fattening food. And since you'll probably break on the no-candy part, take a small amount of candy with you when running(a small bar) and eat it after those 2 hours of running. Do it 2 times per month max, if you feel you can't go without it.

do your knees hurt walking?
if they don't you can continue walking
as long as your are losing weight the load on your knees is getting lighter so you probably wont fuck them up in a few months of walking

I was watching a show on discovery health that said people who lose weight by starvation usually gain it back because it throws your hormones off balance and tells your body to store more fat.

exercise without exercising

Infiltrate North Korea then get caught. By the time the US embassy gets you out a year later you should be extremely skinny, like 99.9% of North Koreans.
