Hay /fit/,

I want to quit smoking and have gone cold turkey 4 days ago... Haven't picked up a single smoke since.
I'm becoming very agitated and restless. I even had dreams about smoking and shit.
Will I have more success steadily smoking less and less and then going cold turkey again?
I used to smoke about 10 cigarettes a day.

Help me out.

Cold turkey is best.
Find a hobby, or focus on fitness to keep your mind from it.

Also, clean up anything that smells remotely like cigarettes.. and try not to hang out with anyone who smokes.

It's so fucking hard to keep my mind off it though. I feel like I get more than 30 cravings per day.
When will these cravings leave me?

cinnamon sticks. swear to god those helped me quit.

I have a cig every other day these days unless I"m drinkign then I'll have like five. I still exercise a ton.

eat alot of veggies too. for some reason veggies make the taste of a cig horrible.

Cold turkey is the only way to quit man, believe me I've been through it all. You're going to go through the worst of the withdrawal symptoms for about 2 weeks, but after that it gets alot easier. After a few months you won't consciously crave cigarettes, but subconsciously you will. Just make sure you don't put yourself in a situation where you'll be likely to cave, like at bars or hanging around with friends when they smoke.

Take this advice. It works.

Also, try to start on a day where you're actually having fun. Maybe when you're splurging on new clothes, or hanging out with a new friend or something.

It's easier to change when you've got a new episode on life.

i second cinnamon sticks.

Man the fuck up.

Just keep it up, Give it a month, then the majour cravings go away.

Then you gotta deal with the subconcious, your fingers will want to hold a smoke, or play with a smoke or reach for one. But just remind yourself to quit.

Carry a picture of black lungs cause by cancer, or mouth cancer pictures or anything like that. Everytime you wanna smoke, look at the picture instead.

Trust me, it'll help.

I'll really try....
It's funny... back when I didn't smoke I thought quitting would be easy as hell, which is why I picked it up.
Damn.. it's not easy at all, but it should be possible.

not OP

hahah yeah, my fingers will sometimes go into cig holding pose for no reason sometimes.

Well, just keep at it OP, my dad was a smoker for like 20 years, but he quit cold turkey out of the blue one day and never smoked again. (although he did have cravings for like two years)
>> Anonymous
I recently quit too, lets do a daily or weekly update at a set time if possible..or not
>> Anonymous
imo its easier going cold turkey than smoking less and less over time.. that way u'll just fall in

I went cold turkey, havnt been smoking for nearly a month now

I was told by a wise woman when I quit smoking that I needed to get into the head space of quiting and not stopping for a while. To quit something means to never do it again. You need to treat it like any addiction and never touch it again. Not when your drinking or bored or waiting for something. When Alcoholics give up the jar they are told they can never drink again. Just a sip, or a puff, can ignite that need in them that can be impossible to say no to or control.

So quit forever, not just give up for a while.
Good luck to you cos it really is hard but also so worth it.

roll a joint and smoke it every time you have a craving

I ran everytime I had a thought of a smoke, while at home. It made me realize everytime how pathetic I was in my cardio and made me regret every second of it. That helped me get rid of cravings.

try jacking off everytime you get a craving
it really takes your mind off it
or think about something happy

I quit a few months ago. I spent every day for a month outside (Or inside in college so I wasn't tempted to go to the smoking area). I also bought a pack of filters, the ones that come in stacks wrapped in plastic, and kept one handy on me at all times, pretending it was a smoke. I'm a bit twitchy so I always smoked to give me something to do with my hands, just having something to hold saw me through it.

It might sound retarded, but start playing World of Warcraft.

Gain a level for every craving.

Replace and addiction with a new one.
Each time you feel like getting a cig.
chew some gum.

Get Allen Carr's "Easy way to stop smoking", download it or whatever. Great book.

I'm proud of you OP, you are choosing to live a better life, save money, protect the people around you and protect you children (if you have any or are going to have any) You are doing the responsible and honorable thing,

As noted before something that will help you quit cold turkey:

Take up a hobby such as joining a book club, model cars, etc.

Continue to exercise in order to try to regain lost lung function

Cinnamon sticks will help

Lots of Yoga, because yoga is focused on flexibility and more importantly breathing technique this will help you immensely.

We're proud of you OP, don't give up !!!!

You deserve respect for going cold turkey. It's the hardest, but best way to do it. Like a real man.

Keep it up, you can do it. Fuck the other weak shit.

Have a fucking smoke, the average smoker lives 10 years less than the average non smoker. You know what those last 10 years are like for everyone? SHIT. You start to forget things, you can't see, moving hurts, everyone you love starts dying or is dead. Enjoy those 10 years though, if you want, I'm going to enjoy my cigarettes.

it took me about 3 tries to finally quit, each time going cold turkey for a while. i picked up running and that also helped.

i dont say this to encourage you to smoke a little again, but that is what worked for me. cold turkey is really ideal.

I used dip instead of patches to help me quit smoking...because, well....dipping is fucking gross.

i quit cold turkey about a month ago.

i was in tescos (britfag here) i found these "interdental woodsticks with flouride" which are basically just minty toothpicks. they're great for the subconscious cravings; whenever i want a smoke i take one out of the pack and put it to my mouth like a cigarette and chew it or pick my teeth with it; thus encouraging healthy lungs and healthy teeth at the same time.

where the hell does one buy cinnamon sticks in britain? i would like to try these.

I smoked for 6 years and quit cold turkey 3 years ago.

I'd been at a friend's birthday party and smoked around 2 packs. When I woke up the next morning my throat felt awful and the hangover didn't help. I haven't smoked since.

It turned out to be surprisingly easy. I had the hardest time with finding out what to do during work breaks now that I had willed myself to stay away from the smoker's area, and I didn't know what to do with my hands, but that went away after a while. All in all it was easy as fuck, all that was needed was a bit of willpower. Your milage may vary.

Cinnamon sticks can be had at every grocer's here, dunno how it is in Britain. If you can't find any at Sainsbury's, try a health food shop.

I quit smoking cold turkey. Really the only thing it made me do was get really pissed off and angry at times but other then that its not bad. Keep at it and you'll be ok! And be sure not to give in if you have friends that smoke and they offer you a cig hehe.

listen it takes 3, yes 3 days before the nicotine has completely left your body.

Seen as how you've done 4 days no cigs that means the nicotine is completely gone, the lingering effects are just your body's way of reconfiguring your lungs, basically the hairs that line the lung cavaties have all been singed off and they need to grow back; expect alot of phlegm.

The most important thing to remember is that now that you've got past that 3 day marker, it's all down to your own will-power. Every time you crave a smoke, its not your body, it's your mind.

Take this from an ex-smoker who used to smoke 20 a day and gave up a few weeks ago.

All power to ya brother

Chantix. Fuck cold turkey. They make pills these days that completely prevent nicotine from reaching your brain, so you stop getting the good vibes from cigarettes. Because it blocks the familiar buzz, your body gets to taste what cigarettes REALLY taste like when not being associated with the pleasure factor. Chantix basically makes nicotine not hit your brain and this, in turn, makes your cigs taste like shit everytime you try one.

do 5 burpees every time you want to smoke. maybe it will help?
also announce that you quit to all your friends.

I long for these times. I'll either eat whatever I want and play video games all day long, or be a cool old man like Ueshiba or something.

THIS, so much THIS. Public failure is so much harder than just quietly giving in.

i quit almost 2 years ago now- 22 months or something. i recently started dreaming about smoking and craving them again. It kinda comes and goes every few months. I do still smoke the occasional cigar.

The worst is when I have a dream about smoking, and I wake up thinking I gave in after quitting for so long. feels shitty

lawlz only retarded faggots started smoking in the first place. enjoy your cancer bitch.

Chupa Chups Relax suckers help a lot with the cravings. I quit cold turkey and bought a bunch to have around when cravings hit. They were really nice since they came in a cigarette shaped box you could carry around.
