6-8 Meals Anonymous
I've been seeing in every single thread that eating better/healthier requires eating smaller, more frequent meals through the day.

My question is what exactly should be making up these small meals and how much of each type of food?

50% carbohydrates (mix between starchy and complex)
30% lean protein
20% fat (which should come from oils and nuts toward the end of the day.)

it depends on your body type and size... but a basic formula i've heard is that for the entire day your calories should come out to about 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat.. adjusted accordingly for your goals of course. try to focus on getting in more of the carbs earlier in the day, but have at least some of each in every meal. never have a meal that's high in fat without being high in protein.. high fat and high carb do not mix well.

Google the quoted words:

"Zone diet" for amount of food

"Paleo diet" or "caveman diet" for kind of foods.

Yes i'm obese but its time I take initiative to turn myself around, no excuses about it. I want to turn this fat into muscle mass but I don't want to be HUGE, so lose a bit of it, turn most of it into muscle.

Thanks for the info so far guys

if i were you, i'd go for gaining 5 pounds of muscle, then losing 5 pounds of fat, rinse & repeat. the muscle will take a bit longer than the fat, and you might lose a bit of muscle when you drop the fat, but this is about what i did and it worked wonders. it's also easier to tell when you get to the exact weight you want to be.

I'm sure he means that he wants to replace some pounds of fatty connective tissue with a proportionate amount of skeletal muscle. Way to not comprehend figures of speech, gaylord.
