Is it bad to crack your knuckles? If so what can happen?

Your penis might fall off.

Five years ago i read an article about it, so forgive me for not remembering it in detail.. The sound is caused by your bones sliding against eachother, and is not harmfull. There is however a chance that it might, over time grind away on your bones, much like water does on a stone. That was just a theory tough, and i still crack my knuckles. I try to not do it so often touch, just in case.

there are two causes to it. one is the gas in your joints escaping as you crakc them. no harm done.

the other is that you are actually popping bone against bone and this can lead to osteoarthritis. i was a chronic knuckle cracker from the time i was a little kid to my early 20's. i cracked them so much that im starting to get arthritis and now can no logner crack them...as in i literally cracked and popped them to the point where there is nothing left to crack and pop.

you can also cause hypermobility of the fingers by constantly stretching the ligaments from cracking them which in turn can cause more ROM which in turn can cause osteoarthritis later on in life.

so yeah, crack every now and then ify ou want to but don't do it every five seconds like i did or else you're fingers will be like jelly in no time at all.

as far as i know, the cracking noise comes from liquid in your joints being turned into gasses under the vacuum you create.
There is nothing unhealthy about it, as long as you dont overdo it, and to overdo it, it has to hurt.

So if youre doing it because it feels nice, then dont worry.

If youre an emokid who wants to torture himself, then thats something completely different

What a bizarre way to torture oneself, though. I want to write a story about someone who self harms that way.

My thumb cracks whenever I bend it for some reason, I suppose I'm just unlucky.

Cracking your knuckles is the bursting of nitrogen bubbles in between your joints.

Completely harmless.

ok so cracking your knuckles seem to be fine, but what about your neck or back? i tend to crack my neck alot when sitting in class and my back when i head to bed at night, can i assume that the same principals of knuckle cracking apply? I.E. no damage unless done excessively?

My left ankle pops whenever I move it a bit faster. Shitsuckscocks. I can move it fine up to a certain point and then it just locks up. It takes a bit more force to make it move and it pops really loud when I do it. My right ankle works just fine. I started taking some supplements that are supposed to help my joints, says on the pack I should notice changes in a month...

got similiar shit, my left knee cracks when i squat very deep, sometimes it hurts a little, doesnt really bother me much, but still i wanna tie my shoes without sounding like 70 yrs old. anyone know how to "cure" that?

I can crack about every joint in my body. I'll crack them about once every 3 hours or they start to feel weird.

I went to the docter and said it was harmless.

Both of my ankles crack 3 or 4 times each time I rotate them. Sometimes more, up to 5 or 6. It is pretty embarrassing at times when you walk up the stairs and you hear the cracking over the sound of the stairs creaking. I mean the sound made from it is fucking loud...

Is there any way to reduce the frequency and extremeness of clicking from Ball and socket joints?

My sister kept telling me that it's bad to crack my knuckles. She kept looking for articles to prove that it was a very bad thing.

Ultimately whenever she came up with something even remotely compelling, I just replied with "but it feels so damn good".

And it does. It feels. So. Damn. Good.

If you don't crack your knuckles or your neck or anything, don't start now. It's like a drug. It begins to ache when you can't do it, you need to do it after a while...

Oh damn I need to do it now.

I used to do that when my wrist got worse with push-ups. You're doing it wrong.

Put your arm out in front of you, palm to the floor, use other arm to pull fingertips back towards you.

Also do opposite with both arms together behind your back.

It will decrease your grip power which is necessary for lifting shit and martial arts such as Judo and BJJ.

My old high school chemistry and physics teacher did a lecture on why it was bad, it puts strain on your joints and torques them in a way that is not meant to be. The only safe way to do it is to pull on your fingers because it lowers the strain to an amount that doesn't matter.
