any grapplers in /fit/?

Do you guys have any regimens for developing good cardio for the groundgame?

Wrestlefag here. Personally, I get my conditioning from Crossfit. In addition, I add powerlifting and O-lifting to my routine. I figure that everyone who's good is in shape aerobically already, but not all of them have massive strength.

former highschool wrestlefag here too. Endurance lifting (medium weight, high rep), and stairs stairs stairs and ankle and wrist weights help a lot.

its true, most highschool wrestlers ive gone to the mat with have decent stamina, they just lack the raw power. powerlifting and O-lifting are quality if you know what youre doing.

Also look into plyometrics.

HIIT and long-distance swimming (an hour straight) seem to work for me.

before i do any grappling i rub my hands all over my balls and then i get off putting my ball-hands on your face and neck, and rubbing my ball stink into your hair.

spar more... I know this sounds dick as adivice... but the way to do it is to force yourself to spar a second round (with a different person if need be) even if it feels like shit... this is how you last longer (or at least it worked for me)

BJJ-fag reporting in. At my dojo we spar 20-35 min at the end of each practice. 5 min matches and then u change partner.

grappling in itself is one big long strength exercises. very little cardio is required, if you're out of breath, the guy you're going against is just that good or you're doing it all wrong.

be patient, strategic, flexible, and precise to win any grappling match and remain at your best.

may sound strange but, I'd highly suggest you start doing yoga for flexibility and core strength. If you don't develop core strength for grappling it will eventually hurt your lower back or you'll slip a disc. Yoga also has a surprising amount of positions that will benefit you at some time or another during practice. And the best part is that your body will feel relieved afterwards.

conditioning>technique>strength

at least for me.

we have ex-marines, army guys, etc who are used to running for miles who gas out after a minute of grappling. it's a different type of cardio and the best way to build up your endurance is to spar/roll more.
