hey /fit/

i'm 5'6'' and I used to weigh 315 lbs, and i lost about 100 of those, at which point i hit a plateau. shortly after this, i had gynecomastia surgery, and then got a very time consuming job, which disabled me from working out.

I have since gained about 20 lbs back, and i'm desperate to lose the 20 lbs as well as more--i want to get the fuck off this plateau.i started doing various ARM exercises with a 15 lb dumbbell, though i don't know shit about lifting so I wouldn't even know what to call the exercises. what I can tell you is that I don't count the reps, i simply do it until i can't do anymore, then i do a different part of my arm until i cant do it anymore, then a different part, etc, until i'm back to the original part.

in addition to that, I am trying very hard to run. I can't run for very long, but I go out and run until i can't run anymore, then walk for 2-5 minutes, then run again.. this lasts for about 30 mins.

as far as my food intake, it's not very good. I live with my parents and the selection of healthy food isn't very good. I tend to eat quite a bit of rice, pasta, and bread related products (bad, i know) Also, at times, i wake up in the middle of the night and i have an uncontrollable urge to eat. It's like i have to have a full stomach to sleep.. I've tried hard to get rid of this urge, but it's almost impossible. I quit the aforementioned job, and so fast food is no longer in my diet... also, i drink nothing but water.

point out of any flaws seen in my methods are appreciated, also, any advice or additional anything would be greatly appreciated.

pic related, it's me before i gained the 20 back.

This is a completely serious question OP. How did you gain that much weight and not do anything about it until you reached 315? Just lack of care?

OP here;
I pondered that question myself, and even looking at people now that are as big as I was, I ask the very same question in my head.. "how do you get THAT fucking fat"

i think it has a lot to do with genes.. my whole family is overweight

it also probably has something to do with my childhood, I won't get into details, but it wasn't pretty.. i turned to eating junk in order to cope with some stuff.

Also, my interests had nothing to do with physical activity. Most of my middle/highschool days involved me playing video games.

another reason was that I had a terrible eating schedule. I wouldn't eat a single thing the entire day, then i would come home from school and be ravenously hungry, and i would eat a lot. this meant that during the slowest hours of my day metabolism wise, i was eating the most.

hope that answers your question

I doubt it's genetics.
When one's whole family is fat, they believe "Ah, since my whole family is fat, it must be genetics" But usually the reason for that is, the whole family shares similar diets, and even when you don't live with your family those similar eating diets stay with you.

Genetics will make you big boned and stuff, but not obese.

You're gonna have to change the way you eat, babe. If you're unable to exercise too much then there's no other choice. I know it's hard. You look old enough to be buying your own food, so do it. Get frozen chicken breasts that you can heat up in the microwave easy, vegetables, etc.

You're a hotty, don't ruin it by gaining more weight. Because OP pic = do want.

how was the surgery? i'll probably end up needing to get it, do you think it was worth it? would you do it again if you had the choice? good results?

it didn't turn out EXACTLY as i had planned, however it's an enormous difference from what I had before. It was very painful and I was in bed for about 2 weeks straight due to the medication and the fact that i got a severe infection. but would I do it again? was it worth it? absolutely yes.

as far as i can tell, the flaw is your eating habits (not what you're eating specifically)

i had the same eating problems. i wasn't ever hungry (because i always ate) but i needed to eat. initially from emotional problems and the like, but eventually it became as habitual as nose-picking. i took baby steps, and dropped from 240 to 200 without changing my exercise regime.

the first thing you should do is, when you're eating, leave the last piece. uneaten. if you're eating a hamburger, throw away the last bite. if you're eating a salad, leave some lettuce on the plate. second thing is to put away your food in between each bite. if you're eating the pizza, put it down after a bite. salad, put the fork down. cereal, put the spoon down. this will change your whole subconscious approach to eating. eventually after doing this for a month or so, i noticed myself eating less than a half of what i used to.

I might be wrong, but it could be a good psychological benefit if you just set goals for your reps for example: 30 reps of whatever exercise. And if it gets easier, you can see your progress and just add more reps in increments of 5 I guess. Seeing your progress and improvement is really rewarding.
