Just trying to figure out how I should go about gaining weight. I've been working out with a bench and freeweights for about 2 months, so far all I've managed to do is reduce my body fat to a scary point while only increasing muscle by a small amount. I am thinking of changing my diet to include about 2lbs of chicken per day and possibly increasing my calorie intake to about 3000. I say that because to go to the gym I have to walk 35 minutes (and back), and I usually swim for 40 minutes while I'm there as well, plus a 30 minute workout. So far I've been doing that on about 2000 calories per day, and I look unhealthy. Is there any down sides I'm not seeing to eating that much chicken or taking in that many calories/grams of protein? Is there a point that is just too much, or does 3000 sound justified for the amount of energy I'm expending. I only plan on eating that much on the days I go to the gym (every 2nd day), and cutting the calories but keeping the chicken on the days I don't. Just seems that for 1200 calories 280g of protein, chicken is the cheapest and best option for me.

OP here, might as well add a TL;DR so I can get a simple answer:

Is eating too much chicken/protein bad for you?

Too much protein over a long period is bad for you, protein loading a few days a week for an intense workout is probably fine. You are best off upping your calories but keeping your current ratios.
