/fit/, I need some protein supplements to fit my gym training, halp!
>> Anonymous
I hear meat is a pretty good protein supplement.

Six skinless chicken tenderloins = about 300 calories and 69 grams of protein according to the nutrition facts on the bag I bought. Just eat all you want.

I'm looking for a more direct kind of supplements, like shakes and stuff.

I think you know what to do, slugger... It's also good for the complexion, so what doesn't drip off you face into the shotglass, rub into your skin.

Chicken doesn't have that much cholesterol. Red meat and shellfish is what you should be concerned about.

Cholesterol is related to how many toxins the animal's liver handles on average, as well as the size of the animal's liver in relation to its body. One five ounce chicken breast has a lot of protein and only about 20% of your daily recommended cholesterol, whereas beef or shellfish like shrimp and clams simply have a lot more.

Furthermore, in males, adequate cholesterol is necessary. Males have more cholesterol in their brains, resulting in roughly a 5% larger brain than females, and consuming cholesterol maintains healthier brain functions because of this fact. Cholesterol is also required for testosterone production, hence why you might sometimes hear people say that overconsumption of red meat results in more aggressive behavior. It's not specifically the red meat, but the amount of cholesterol it contains that makes people say this, although in reality, while this is somewhat true, you'd need to REALLY overeat a lot of cholesterol to have it cause a large change in your testosterone. The technical side of this is just the proven fact that higher testosterone equates to anger and mood swings and bad acne, hence why they say you should stay away from anabolic steroids.

Serious Mass
Just for the heck of a name.

Honestly, it depends on what your body type is and what you want out of it.

Mutant Mass is a wicked protein, but it's over 1100 calories per 50g/protein. Conversely, you have something like Iso XP, which is around 200 calories per 50g. Then you even have different types of proteins that synthesize differently.

My suggestion is this - If you want to bulk up, hit up something like Iso XP (about 200 calories per 50g of protein). Take 50g directly after your workout, switch to something like Promasil (or any protein blend) and take 50g before bedtime, then another blend when you wake up. The idea is to take an isolate directly after the workout because they metabolize quickly, and a blended protein before bed and during the day because they take a long time to fully metabolize.

Shoot off any other questions you have that you need cleared up. I've taken just about everything you can think of.

Thats alot of anecdotal evidence. Theres no proven link between anger and testosterone, only dominant behaviour - which is largely confident rather than aggressive.

Just buy a basic Whey Protein Shake and swig down a helping after you work out, have a look around and find a decent quality one that doesn't break the bank and that you'll be able to bear the taste of, there's a huge number of them around.
