Beer Anonymous
Sup /fit/

I'm a bit overweight and I want to try and change this through exercise (I currently do next to none). However, I rather like my beer and would find it very hard to part with. Realistically, can I lose weight without giving up alcohol? How about, without even cutting down?

I'm a bit under 6 foot tall, weigh about 190-ish lb. 21 years old.

It's not the alcohol in beer that contains the majority of the calories, it's the fact that you are drinking a relatively large amount of liquid that is not alcohol - rather liquid carbs. You are drinking bread, essentially.

ugh no. go look up the number of calories in regular beer, light beer, and a shot of vodka.

No, not entirely true. I'll break it down, there are 3 basic types of macronutrients that you body can process: Carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Alcohol is a bastard child, in the fact that the body can't process it straight. The body has to break it down into usable parts, acetate and fat. Acetate is immediately used as fuel, while fat gets stored. The problem with this is that while acetate is used, the three main macros are ignored, leading to weight gain.

Spirits are mostly alcohol, depending on the percentage, while beer has alcohol AND carbohydrates.
