How many crunches a day would I need to do to see a 6 pack by the end of June? I'm doing 300-500 crunches a day, and I'm 5 foot 10, 170 pounds. BMI is 14%.

Are situps better?

Crunches won't do anything, do some cardio

6 pack is tendons, not muscles.

Abdominus rectus is muscle, interrupted with tendons.

Tendons alone can't contract, they can only store elastic energy.

Abdominus rectus is muscle, but you can't see it. You see the tendons on top of it.

I don't know any of these terms or anything. I always thought pushups/situps/crunches/etc worked the abs (abdominus rectus), which results in visible abs.

Sit ups do work the ab muscles, but don't result in visible abs. What people call a "6 pack" is made of connective tissue. It's called the "tendinous inscription". That's why people sometimes say that everyone has a 6 pack, it's just under your belly fat.

your my weight and my height , i got steel abs from doing about 20 in sets of 3 every now and then, like i dont even have a specific workout days. your doing an insane amount of crunches there , like actually ridiculous and your doing them so often you arent giving you abs a chance to grow. still , with that number i cant understand how you dont have a six pack, are you sure your doing them properly? if not start doing full contractions,if you are give it a rest for like two weeks maybe even more. doing cardio is good aswell.

Oh and by the way, sit ups are ab work are great if you want more core strength and more girth. But seeing a "6 pack" is all about bodyfat, and bodyfat alone.

So wouldn't it mean if I worked the muscles more (crunches, etc), I wouldn't need to lose weight, as they'd get so large they'd protrude the fat?

I'm not fat in any way, though, I'm just asking.

it's muscle AND tendon, the muscle behaves just as every other muscle in our body does, and grows with hypertrophy. A six pack can be visible at _slightly_ higher bf % with large adbominal muscles.

I don't know why everyone here seems to vehemothly deny that, just fucking look at an anatomy book or the picture, it's pretty clear what makes a six pack.

no. Unless you have less than 10% bodyfat your abs won't ever be visible. Even though you might not be overweight or whatever, your bodyfat% can still be far above 10. I think anorexics are 30% bodyfat or something.

Okay since you obviously know what you're talking about, if a 6 pack is made of muscle as well as tendon, what's the muscle called? Which movements does its contractions control? And why if it is muscle then why is it split into bands? Isn't that pointless for a muscle?

vodka , drink more vodka. its been science-tasticly proven that vodka gives you abs. not just ab's , but solar ab's that allow you to take in sunlight and release it the form of an arc of lightening from your belly button. get drunk , get zappy my friend
