Ok so I have a fairly thin physique. I'm about 6'1", and weigh around 160-165. A friend tells me that in order to gain muscle mass and to see definition, I need some weight or something. If I want to gain muscle mass, I need a high carb/calorie/protein diet. Is this true? Sorry for the basic question.

Second question, which is very related, if my friend is correct: In order for my hypothetical 6-pack to be visible, I need to burn off that small layer of fat. How can I possibly do that AND gain weight to be converted to muscle mass?

For your first question, just go to the gym and do EVERY SINGLE MACHINE to work out all your muscles. Also, forget about protein and calories, just stack carbs and only carbs.

As for your second question, do about 1000 crunches a day to spot reduce the fat off your stomach. Hope that helps.

You might have a tough time with this one.

Especially because your core has the lowest potential for hypertrophy of your entire body.

But if you want to get bigger, you have to eat more. I guess if you don't want to get any bigger, have more protein and less carbs in your diet, and workout, that would probably do what you need

We're about the same. I'm 6'1", 160LB.

What do you look like OP? Let's compare.

I benchpress 165LB, btw.

Practice, man. At the beginning of this year, I too was struggling at that weight. You'll be surprised how quickly you can get up to 150LB. After that though, it's fucking tough. It used to be I was adding 5LB every week, now it takes 2-3 weeks for me to add that much more.
