Hey /fit/

I have Keratosis Pilaris pretty bad on my upper arms, upper legs, and butt. I also get some pretty bad zits and black heads on my back, despite good showering habits and changing my shirt each day. I've tried vigorously scrubbing the regions that have the Keratosis bumps, but that doesn't seem to work either. Does anyone else here have any experience with this? Has anyone had it treated successfully? What kind of advise or medicine does a dermatologist give for a person with this?

Plz?

They'll prescribe some sort of Urea foam or cream that will cost $$ and not work very well. I've greatly improved by Keretosis with a lifestyle change of:

- No Milk
- Beta Carotene rich vegetables + supplement
- Generally eating better
- Cutting out soda and most processed sugar
- Regular exercise

My forearms have gone from feeling like sandpaper to being so smooth all I do is touch them all day. The same plan, however, may not work for you - it's a tricky condition, and I'm not sure which of the steps I've taken is most responsible.

pop em and eat the pus. Its what I do when I get it on my arms. It goes away then because it doesnt like being eaten.

I have the same thing. As does my mother and her side of the family. The worst is on my upper arms but I have it on my butt too =(. My mom tried a dermatologist and the cream they prescribe doesn't do much.

The best solution I've heard is to go swimming regulary in a pool. Somoene posted that here recently and claimed the chlorine in the pool cleared up his skin.

My arms are kind of flabby right now. I always wondered if bulking them up would help out with the appearance.

This doesn't help everyone, but it does effect a lot of people. Supposedly conditioner (for your hair... the stuff you use after shampoo?) causes a LOT of skin problems on the shoulders and upper back. Be careful about how you rinse your hair and if it's long enough to rest on your shoulders. I do have long hair... once I started conditioning my hair, putting it in a towel, and then finishing my shower by washing my body last, I noticed a lot of problems clear up. While it may not be your problem, it doesn't hurt to try (it's free and it doesn't take extra time).

tl;dr: after you condition or wash your hair, make sure your skin is rinsed properly and hair stays off your shoulders if it's long.

OP: Thanks for the answers, I will try rinsing out conditioner first then doing the body wash. I'll probably also give replies 1 and 2 and try as well, since SQWATZ do solve all problems.
