I know nothing about stretching properly. What guides does /fit/ recommend?

Are you stretching to increase flexibility or to avoid injury while running/lifting? I can help you out, but more details would be good first.

Also, post more pics.

K, stretching for weight lifting:

DON'T.
Stretching may hinder your performance lifting. The most you want to do is a light warm up. I normally just swing my arms in circles backward, forward, and side to side while walking from the locker room to the gym. It would also be good to reach down towards your toes and just lift your knees up high a few times.

Running.

Stretching before running will loosen your legs up, while stretching afterwards you will be able to increase flexibility by pushing your stretch a bit more. When doing a stretch, hold it for at least 15 seconds.

Good stretches:
-Sit down, feet in front, knees straight, grab your toes.
*if this is easy, grab past your toes or grab the blade of your foot.
-Same thing, just pull one leg in, then alternate.

Ummm, I'm going to look for pics to describe the next ones.

This one is pretty self explanatory.

Another one that I forgot before is to spread your legs out as far as you can and sit on your ass. Stretch towards each leg in the same way as>>296824then reach down and grab both feet. If you feel a little bit loosened up, push your hips forward to spread your legs as much as you can comfortably and repeat the stretch.

Read articles on how to stretch.
I don't usually stretch at my gym, because it's fucking cold there. Instead, i warm up with front squats and back squats. I stretch my hamstrings afterwards and on off days.

When I do the one in this pic I normally grab the front of my knee and pull.

Another stretch! Butterflies! Very simple, just put the bottoms of your feet together and push your knees to the ground. If it's easy, pull your feet closer to your body.

A lot of people forget to stretch their hips out, but it's very important. Try to keep your upper body facing towards the ceiling.

One more tip. Normally my calves feel fine but if yours feel tight you can point your toes out or pull them in during the stretches where you grab towards your feet.

That's most of the important advice off the top of my head, does that help?

JK, more stuff. I didn't realize you wanted to stretch for general calisthenics as well. No more good pics, just awkward descriptions.

Back stretch:
Sit down, bend you right knee so that your right foot is touching the ground on the left side of your left thigh. Touch your left elbow to the outside of your right knee, then twist. Repeat with the other side.

Abs stretch:
Just lay face down on the ground and push with your arms and tilt with your head back as far as you can. Kind of like you're trying to hold a push up with your hips on the ground instead of your feet.

ARMZ:
Grab the outside of your right elbow with your left hand and pull your arm back towards your neck like you're trying to put your arm on like a scarf. Repeat with other side.

MORE ARMZ!
Grab the outside of your right elbow with your left hand. This time bring both arms up above your head and pull your right arm behind your head, or as far as you can comfortably.

ARMZ AGAIN!!!
Grab the inside of a door frame and twist your body away from your arm while keeping your arm straight. This will stretch your biceps.

Ok, now that's all the important stuff I can think of.
