I'm the femanon who posted earlier about wanting a nice butt. You adviced me to do squats so I've been doing them for a few days now - my thighs are killing me but I can't really feel a thing in my butt. Am I doing it wrong?

Use a wide stance. Takes some work away from quads and puts it more on hamstrings/gluts. Also sumo deadlifts.

Hypertrophy comes through progressive resistance. All the bodyweight squats in the world are doing you fuck all in terms of getting a round, shapely figure. However, you'll get more muscular endurance, I suppose.

Find a way to add weight.

Muscle soreness is caused by a number of things. It is -=NOT=- an indication of the effectiveness of the exercise!!! If you feel sore in your thighs and not your gluts, this means nothing. Squats are still the best exercise overall.

Are your heels firmly planted into ground, are your hamstrings touching your calves and are you using more than 8 or so reps, because if you are, you'll naturally underload the glutes because you simply don't need much power from them to do the exercise.

Also: Bodyweight squats wont do shit for glutes anyway, what weight are they gonna be pulling up if it's not resting on your neck\in your hands, get some 10kg dumbell, repeat and that should help the butt get bigger.

OP -- SQUATS will always work your QUADS

if you want to work your butt, pick an exercise that works your fucking butt. do deadlifts. do reverse hypers. do bridges. look up the phrase "posterior chain."
