No shit, I eat a banana every day before I go running in the morning. I once ate a jalepeno hotdog just minutes before a marathon as well.
It doesn't really matter when you eat, but what you don't want to happen is you're in the middle of your run and suddenly you've got to take a shit. Just figure out how much you can eat (if anything) before you run.
A piece of fruit or a single glass of orange juice will give you a little bit of energy, and you'll feel a "good" hungry when you're done.
