I heard that once you finish your daily exercise you should wait an hour before eating otherwise it would mess up your metabolism or something like that. Anyone care to discuss?

bump, i've heard the same thing, but i've also heard the opposite, any experts care to weigh in?

All I can add in is wait at least 30 minutes after eating. There is nothing bad to it but it can give you cramps and some other pains, so I cant give you the specifics but wait at least 30 minutes

A post-workout shake is optimal after both resistance training and cardio.

It's obvious with resistance, but when it comes to cardio, most people will avoid meals because they don't want to put the calories right back in that they just burned, but if you do this, it may cause catabolization.

I'll have a post-workout shake after weight training, and a small glass of whey protein+banana after cardio.

It has absolutely nothing to do with your metabolism, and everything to do with replenishing your body.

If you're trying to lose weight, waiting awhile is a good idea. The idea (so I've heard) is to let your body try to replenish itself first from its own reserves, and not from new energy being added. Eat something light after that to make up the balance.

i've seen some study reports that if you drink two glasses of milk after working out you'll lose fat. more than if you didn't drink it.

i read in "the book of muscle" by ian king that if one is trying to gain muscle one should consume protein and carbs immediately after exersize, as those nutrients will go directly into ones muscles due to increased blood flow. this stuff about not eating sounds incredibly retarded to me, you may as well eat after working out.

my trainer at the gym said that "If you dont eat in the next 2 hours - its as if you didn't have a workout"

So for muscle building, right after workout EAT a LOT. Protein i guess + carbs
