I've been wanting to take up martial arts but I'm way too out of shape to keep up with everyone, what are some exercises I can do that can keep me running longer without running out of breath, increase my flexibility and get my heart stronger?

Also, if someone is fat and then drops the weight and continues to exercise will that person have a bad heart because of his previous weight or can it get stronger?

I don't have heart trouble yet, but I do have high blood pressure.

Kyokushinfag here:

1. Squatz (lol)
2. Run stairs
3. Lots and lots of kicks, until you almost die.
4. Typical stretching
5. Shadow boxing with weight (be careful with this though, you'll injure yourself if you do it wrong.)
6. Pushups
7. Don't eat a bunch of shit, and only drink water.

Your heart can recover, but you may have built up excess cholesterol or other shit in your veins which you won't be able to deal with as easily. The heart is like any other muscle, exercise will make it stronger.

Can you get rid of the cholesterol crap or is it permanent?

the main thing is not to let your elbows fully extend and to make sure you have control of your shoulders.... joint damage is the thing to worry about.

boxing or sparring gloves plus a 1lb weight on each arm to start, add .5 pounds per week until you get to 5 lbs per arm.
