my dad just got back from a physical and he has high blood pressure. thing is, he absolutely refuses to take any kind of medication for it, as he refuses to help pharmaceutical companies in any way. so, I ask you all. how can he change what he eats so that he can bring his blood pressure down?

less sodium, more exercise.

Forget sodium levels and all that shit... good rule of thumb is no processed food. Avoid deep fried foods. And when eating meat imagine that the plate is a pie chart and only fill up to a quarter with meat, quarter carbs, then the rest veg.

New studies show exercise has less to do with high blood pressure than previously thought. So a long walk every other day is fine. Just keep your eyes on the diet.

My Dad did the Vegan thing when he was diagnosed with cancer... he'd already had high blood pressure and was overweight for years from beer and bad food.

It really DID work... and of course some great surgery and chemo and radiation therapy on the cancer... but the rest seemed to help his overall health to an extreme.

Later he slowly backed-off the Vegan diet to a more balanced and intelligent diet that included meats realizing that staying Vegan forever is a good way to kill yourself... but it was a great way to clean-up quickly.

Stress is a factor in short term hypertension. Lastest clinical studies show it is not a factor in long term.

True, still thats his stance and it looks like he will die from it. Shame his ethics didnt extend to not giving money to McDonalds thereby helping the fast food companies destroy the lives of millions of his countrymen

My dad got back from the hospital and his blood pressure was so low it was off the chart.

Make your dad drink apple juice twice a day.
