Anyone have experience with the Bowflex SelectTech dumbells?

I don't really have room for a full weight set in my apartment, and I thought they might be a good solution.

Any input or other recommendations would be appreciated.

the selectech are shit.
It's better if you just bought a set, put them under your bed or something. it's even better if you just bought a gym membership.

I have a gym membership, but I've been working really late these days. I seldom find the time to actually go.

If you can afford those fukken expensive dumbbells, you can afford another apartment to put weights in.

besides.. normal cheap weights make you look more manly.

But on a more serious note, those weights won't be heavy enough for improvement. I remember trying them and thinking with the max weight, it still wasn't that heavy. When you gradually get stronger, you'll need to buy another set anyway for certain areas (bench press for chest, squats for quads etc) because what it comes in won't be heavy enough. So I say no to these even though I wanted it myself a while ago.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, but they do make a set that has a 90 lbs max weight, which I think would be more than enough for my needs. The ones in the picture only go to like 50 lbs or something.

They are rather expensive, but that's not really the issue for me. I'd rather spend some cash on something I'll use than not do any lifting.

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has any actual experience with them. I picked em up in the store, and the whole thing felt kind of flimsy.

dude, why don't you just buy some adjustable dumbbells?

they'll be cheaper and you can always get more plates to put on them. I have a set and can fit 100 pounds on them, and they're way sturdier than that bowflex bullshit.

^by that i mean 100 pounds on each...200 lbs total.

Just buy normal dumbbells and put them under your bed when you're not using them.

One good argument for the adjustable dumbbells instead of getting a handle and plates is the time savings.

It's so much more convenient to put it down, change a setting on each real quick to change weight, then continue with your workout than to:

Unscrew one side, adjust weight, rescrew, unscrew other side, adjust weight, rescrew, unscrew other handle, adjust weight, rescrew, unscrew other side, adjust weight, rescrew.

I've shaved a good 15 minutes from my workout with my powerblock adjustable set.

If you are considering getting them, look on craigslist for a week. They usually come up about 1/2 the price new.

you know when you're resting between sets? yeah, that's when you change. It's not like you lift the entire duration of your workout
