I just recently started up squatting and my legs are sore as hell. Should I stop until they don't hurt as much, or should I keep on doing what I was doing? Is soreness a good thing when it comes to exercise?

You need to do more squatz.

Start slowly. Slight soreness is ok, it shows you trained hard.
Too much soreness is bad, it shows you overdid it and you'll regret this later.

Keep doing them, but be careful of your form. If they're sore, your form may be off.

I was off form when I started and ended up with really sore knees for a week.

Joint soreness is bad. Muscle soreness is okay unless it's injury-level pain. If you want sit in a cold or ice bath for 20 minutes or so, it'll help.

it's a good sign. my legs were sore as well when i started squatting. give it about 4 days and it will go away and the next time you squat you won't feel anything.

also stretching the muscle helps with the pain for a short while

stretching sore muscles is a very bad idea.
Sore muscles indicate small fibre rips and by stretching you increase these damages only.
Eat protein and cherry juice, that'll help recovery.
And if your muscles are really sore, don't go on training.
They are damaged enough and will repair in the next two, three days.
When you are healed, train again.

So you're saying stretching would cause more tearing and thus a larger rebuild of these fibres? If anything that would only make you stronger

And stretching after done working out is widely accepted as good for you so your range of motion doesn't get fucked up. If you can stretch then, directly after having torn these fibers, stretching later isn't worse

But hey to each his own
