/fit/, I am in need of some help here. A few years ago when I was younger, maybe 15 or 16, I was taking family photos up top on my father's trucks cab. My brother was a dick and pushed me, so I fell but landed straight on my legs, didn't fall down or anything. Straight onto my feet. Needless to say it fucking hurt my knees.

Years later, I've still got pain in my knee. Went to therapy, but all they did was have me do some shitty exercises with giant rubber bands. Didn't do anything. Now if I extend my leg too far, a terribly loud cracking sound ensues. Not fun for anyone. The docs said my muscles weren't strong enough and didn't pull right so the cap scapes it's cartilage against my femur.

I'm also in the process of trying to lose about 20 lbs, and get in shape. Walk 2 miles a day, sometimes I bike but I can't run or else my knee will stop me altogether. How should I go about rehabilitating myself and fix this knee?

Well surgery is an option, but they said they thought rehab would be a viable option.

The exercises were rather simple. I was given strong elastics to 1)lay on my back, pull it under my foot and raise my leg up straight 2)lay on my side and just raise my leg up 3)use a stairclimber with varying difficulty. I did it for about a month and didn't feel any real difference, and just didn't get into a habit of doing them.

Chances are if I don't do something now, one day while I'm walking I'll end up not having any cartilage there and fall on my ass for good.

If it gets worse, or some shit breaks, they might insert some sort of metal brace thing in your knee, which may or may not be a green light for you to do rigorous exercise with your knee. I'm pretty sure your knee cap's cartilage shouldn't be scraping against anything. But then, I didn't write Gray's Anatomy either. By the way OP, is that an x-ray of your knee, or just a random one?
