Ankles and Knees are really sore Anonymous
I jogged two miles everyday for a week and a half and then my ankles and knees became really sore. Any ideas about what to do for them? Its been 4 days since they started hurting. Obviously, I've been getting a lot of rest and havent been jogging.

do not run until they feel better, then start running again a soon as they feel completely better

Old story. Every January, the gym fills up with newly-resolved people who go apeshit. The gym's empty by February and presumably the clinics are filled.

Go fucking light starting out.

How long could it take for them to heal? I've never had an injury like this before.

its not an injury, just sore muscles because theey are not used to that sudden work out, it should take maybe a week, maybe more

Depends very much. The damage may be ligament and tendons, or bone stress fractures, or possibly just a simple strain.

It could be a few weeks or even months. Think of a broken arm. Or it could be over quickly.

Don't panic, rest them, and take glucosamine and gelatin capsules. Make sure to return to fitness when you are healed, but slowly.

Also, be sure to stretch adequately both before and after running.

Bad running technique or hard surfaces/heavy weight probably.

It's definitely a lot of weight and stress on my ankles. I'm 230 lbs. at almost 6 feet tall. Its certainly too much too quick.

how do you tie your shoes before you go out? guaranteed that that's your ankle problem.
Do you run on a slightly slanted road shoulder? Even the slightest slant can mess up your knees after a long run.
Do you run on pavement? That can mess BOTH up.

Make sure to stretch, and run on the side of the road. Take more breaks in between days of running and not running, and to compensate, run longer on the days you DO run, and do it without taking any rest stops.

I run 5 to 10 miles a day, and I used to have the same problem you do. Good luck.

how do you tie your shoes before you go out? I tie them normally with a tied bows.
Do you run on a slightly slanted road shoulder? Ran on the road more, but I should run on the flat sides.
Do you run on pavement? Yep

jesus, christ there are some stupid people posting in here.

OP, here some things that may be causing your pain

-shitty shoes: You need good running shoes to run on hard surfaces and those good shoes need to be replaced after they lose their compressivenes.
-you're fat: more impact than you're ready for even with really good shoes. Start lighter, or do weights instead.
-going too hard: you might have just been going too hard or too often.

Either way, the pain if from tendon strain and ligament strain, stay off it till it no longer hurts, then go rock out with out overdoing, and with good shoes.
