I have somewhat noticeable acne on my face and upper chest and terrible acne on my back. I have very light and fair skin, so a lot of things I've tried tend to just irritate it more. What products should I use and what ingredients should I avoid?

Pic somewhat related, I've heard that spending more time in the sun can help with acne (with sunscreen of course). Anyone confirm this?

sun doesn't help get accutane

First of all, go see a doctor, preferrably a dermatologist.

For your back, try Benzoylperoxide at a concentration of 5 % max., higher will just increase risk of irritations. The skin on your back is thick and should therefore be able to handle treatment with that fairly well. Pay attention to what you wear, since BPO bleaches out clothes.
However, if the acne on your back is really severe, you might be best off getting a systemic Isotretinoine treatment.

For your face...difficult. Adepalene could work, it's not as aggressive as Isotretinoine (topical) and still provides good results with a lot of people, especially if your acne on your face is of the mild sort.
Antibiotic ointments and gels can provide quick improvement, but are not suitable for long term use, as the acne bacteria will grow resistant to rhem.

Spending time in the sun can obscure acne as the skin gets darker, but it is not believed to have a genuinely positive effect on it. On the contrary, too much sunbathing can increase acne.

Also, what I forgot to add, if you encounter irritations like dry skin (which is almost guaranteed to show up with most medical treatment of acne), get moisturisers that are labeled "non-comedogene".
