When you block a kick and get hit so hard that it causes your muscles to momentarily fail and become unable to support their own weight, discipline can quickly go out the window. Real discipline isn't sitting there on your knees for two hours and practicing some kata over and over.
Not trying to sound like an internet tough guy, but seriously. Martial arts training doesn't mean much when, in the heat of the moment, your opponent is more experienced at fighting in general than you are.
What is real discipline? Making sure that when you go in for the punch, kick, elbow, knee, or what have you, you keep your damn guard up at all times and try not to leave any obvious openings. True discipline is knowing to follow up with a second blow after you land your first one without waiting too long and passing up the opportunity.
