One Hand noko
I need your help /fit/,

I lost my right hand at the wrist nearly a year ago and since then I've spent most of my time pissed off in public or depressed in my room. I lost about 20lbs because of poor eating habits and hibernation for lack of a better word. I now weigh 155lbs and I am 6'2".

What excersizes can I do one-handed and how should I ease into healthy eating and activity again? Your opinion means more than you know.
>> Anonymous
Excuse my misuse of noko...
>> Anonymous
Shit, poor Anon. You can still lift dumbbells with your other hand and go swimming. I think swimming would be your best bet, it'd probably make you feel considerably better as well.
>> Anonymous
Swimming for sure.

You'll still produce drag without a hand.

It'll tone ya up.
I wish you all the luck.

(P.S. Get a pirate hook, I fucking love pirates.)
>> Anonymous
Will swimming help gain muscle or mostly serve cardiovascular means?
>> Anonymous
get a hook or gtfo
>> Anonymous
Yeah, yeah. Hook, I get it. GB2 /b/ fucktard.

on a more serious note you may be able to secure a prosthetic with articulating&locking fingers for weightlifting. If not, invent one and market it.

I would recommend squatting also, but instead of gripping the bar when its across your shoulders, wrap both your wrists around/over it.

Thirdly, drink a SHITLOAD of water. you'll instantly feel better. eating salads are also a great way to ease back into fitness.

please report back with progress anon!!!

get a cool prosthetic and be thankful you still have your arm, losing your whole arm would seriously suck
>> Anonymous

by stupid do you mean awesome?
>> Anonymous
Just wait a while like about 5 years and you will a have a rad robotic hand that can crush steel and turn into a dildo I promise
>> ???????????????????????????????????

whats an EFP is that like a IED?
>> Anonymous
theres a guy at my gym with a prosthetic arm from the elbo-ish, he does a lot of pulling exercises. i imagine you'd be able to do most machines just fine

OP here,
EFP = Explosively Formed Projectile

Look it up for fun.

I have a few prosthetics, even a top of the line one, but they all fucking blow in comparison to the real thing. They're fun to play with but fucking useless.

Does swimming build muscle?

>>125307
I don't like you.
>> Anonymous
i've seen a pic of a power lifter with a prostetic arm (from below the elbow i think) benching
so i guess it's possible
>> Anonymous
>>125355

>> Anonymous

You can hope that the technology standards will one day create a hand that will have alsmost the same power as your natural hand.

Fullmetal Alchemist, yeah!

Yes swimming builds muscle because water provides quite a lot of resistance, and it gets harder the faster you try to go.

Get some kind of multi-attachment thing, then make different attatchments ranging from hooks to swords and umbrellas to dildos. You'd be like a badass inspector gadget.

On a serious note I second the swimming thing, although it might be mildly awkward a handless arm will still produce drag, and i'm sure a prosthetic hand (if thats possible in your case) that is fine in water would suffice. The key is learning to deal with strangers initial shock to see you only have one hand. Most normal folk will only treat you like an invalid if you act like one, and the key to that is being reclusive. Just get out as much as you can and learn to ignore people who glance and double take. Sorry, I've just given you a lecture on HOW TO LIVE when I have no idea what it's like to lose a body part. Just don't feel too sorry for yourself for too long and just keep at it.

there's a guy at my gym in the similar position as you OP, but he lost his left hand instead. he's actually able to do bench presses on the Hammer Strength machines with his stub and do curls in the preacher curl machine with his wrists. it's entirely possible to be able to do the regular exercise moions as long as your gym has access to adequate machines.

get one of these, you have a valid reason, or wear a large leather glove that almost goes up most of forearm
>> Anonymous
yeah, actually this is the only time i would ever recommend machines to anybody.

dear op
perhaps /fit/ isn't the best place for this kind of advice.
I'm sure there are a lot of great resource pages for amputee weight training.

Swimming seems to be a good consensus... I doubt it'll help with a lot of muscle growth.. but its a hell of workout.

Change your diet... immediately.

figure out a way to weight train with no hand... and then dedicate every spare second you have to it. It will help with your depression possibly.

You've still got like 95 percent of your body left man, dont let it go to waste.

good luck op

Take up Muay Thai. From my understanding, there's a huge focus on elbow strikes, and it's a seriously badass martial art.

Thinking about kicking peoples asses always makes me stop feeling depressed.
