Protein Shakes Anonymous
What should I look for in a protein shake?
Should I still take a multivitamin?
Should I get a soy/whey or just whey?
What do you use?
Can it be found at a GNC?

I prefer neutral whey without sweetener or aroma.
Multivitamins are not really needed if you eat right, but take em if it makes you feel better.
I take some when I'm ill.
Whey is king, but soy is fine too sometimes.
Whey and sometimes soy.
dunno what a gnc is.

DO NOT WANT
Assuming milk [whey] comes from a female cow, does it also add estrogen?

No, it doesn't.

So long as you're a menopausal woman, or have a hormonal imbalance, you'll be just fine. Plant hormones only come into play when a person's natural hormone making abilities are jeopardized by something or another. Even so, you'd have to drink/eat a lot of soy products every single day for it to even be a big deal.

Soy is perfectly fine. The phytoestrogen in it is comparable to nuts and bread. Both soy and milk have their health risks and rewards, and you should just choose whichever one you like better.

thats why the sister of my ex is having growth problems cause she's alergic to lactose and takes soy milk since she was a kid. she's 9 and grown too tall for her age, her bones have grown too fast and she might have serious problems later, or even now.

Something with a protien blend is best, the one I use has micellar casein, whey proteins/isolates, and soy/wheat protiens.

I like sweetened stuff, but that's only me. It's great to get a vanilla flavored whey and then mix in cinnamon or a half teaspoon of cocoa powder for a delicious treat.

Plus, I'm on the velocity diet so any variation in my shakes is a huge plus. :/

btw, yes take a multivitamin. And green supplements, fish oil caps.. whatever the fuck you like.

If you're lifting every other day your body will use those nutrients right up.

What to look for in a protein shake is dependent on what you want as an end result. If you have a low body fat and want to bulk up, a high calorie protein powder will be great. If you are looking to lose weight as you work out, switch to something as low calorie as you possibly can.

Keep in mind that you should take one 50g serving of protein directly after your workout, another before bed and possibly one as a snack during the day. Never exceed 50g of protein per hour or you will be just wasting money as your body cannot metabolize it fast enough. Total daily intake of protein for a body builder should be around 1g per pound you weigh.

Because you should be taking proteins at different times of the day, it's a good idea to get different types of protein for each shake. Stick to an Isolate for directly after the gym. It absorbs fully VERY quickly, and will help stop your body from tearing itself apart in a catabolic state. For bed-time and as a snack, get something like Promasil (available at GNC), or any other protein BLEND. These blends will have dozens of types of protein chains together and will metabolize at different rates making it a lot more suitable for rest periods.

Oh, I should mention the Amino 1000 supplement. It's a great supplement you can get at GNC for cheap that provides Amino Acids to complete incomplete protein chains in foods you eat. For example, a peanut butter sandwich on white bread has 0g of protein because they are incomplete protein chains, but the second you switch that to wheat bread, the amino acids in the bread complete those chains and instantly those incomplete chains can be used. This supplement helps your body convert all incomplete chains into usable, complete ones.

Thanks, and if any one else has something to say that would be welcomed.
