Male Interaction Anonymous
/fit/, I have a question I think you can answer.

I know about this whole 'Alpha Male' psychology that's so prevalent as of the latter half of this decade, and I'm wondering if it can help explain something I've kept noticing.

When guys are hanging out together (not vidya/weeaboo types, but frat boys, jocks and generally people who get laid and play Halo), why do I always see the same pattern of interaction? Why are guys always trying to one-up eachother with 'joking' insults? They're friends, but it's like they're really only superficially friends... it seems to me they're just vying for dominance and trying desperately to overcome one another to be the leader of the pack. Everything they say to each other is a backhanded compliment or something said sarcastically with a '...haha kidding' unconvincingly added at the end.

Explain.

We insult and belittle each other to bond, it's the socially acceptable equivalent of sitting around hugging and holding hands.
>> Anonymous
what do you expect? Guys talking about their feelings?

because thats what being a man is about?trying to be the leader of your pack and the best that you can possibly be?
>> Anonymous
its just a game between friends until someone gets punched in the face
>> Anonymous
Is there some way to do it other than trying to be the biggest douche you can be?

Or when it happens, does it happen because all of the people involved are natural alpha males? Would you do better, if you're an alpha male ('Type A personality') to find more submissive, passive, beta friends?

I expect guys hitting each other.

Physically.

it's not to bond, it's to show hierarchy, even among top dogs.

Why don't you faggots just fuck off with your alpha male pseudo science. Human relationships are not that simple ffs.

its a thing that goes on in a man's mind. we try to out top the top dog and in the end we insult eachother in a joking way. even if we don't seem like it we are just messing around. the way to tell if someones not messing around is if a fist is crammed into someones pie hole

It's not really a joke though. That's the one thing I've noticed with people of my generation (I'm 22). Whenever I've talked to or seen people around my age, whenever I hear jokes (unless they're being told like a story, with a punchline), they're really not jokes at all. They're just insults disguised as jokes. It seems to me like they want badly to insult and belittle other people, but they don't want to be so obvious about it that it automatically makes the person hostile to them.

Guys insult each other because it's fucking funny.
>> Anonymous
Think of it as low-level trolling IRL. You're trying to 'mess with' your buddy, irritate him or whatever. But he knows that whatever you're saying, you're not saying it with malignant intent - you're just screwing around. Like when someone plays a practical joke - they're not nessicarially doing it so much out of meanness as, well... for the lulz. Most "Alpha Males" can handle harmless banter from their friends because they're not overly sensitive lady-boys.

What I learned is that the real top dogs, alpha men, call it whichever you like, never do that, just the little puppies who imagine themselves as top dogs
>> Anonymous
if you can insult someone to the point that they have nothing to say
they are the submissive bitch

except 320917 was not trolling, it's a fact. People who are too busy to prove their masculinity are the one who bark the most and this case is pretty much the case of

when they "joke", they bark to prove that they are on the top.

That was all we do in high school, fucking with each other like that.

Because it's funny, there might be some minor alpha male bullshit behind it but that kind of philosophy is nothing but background noise. Anyone who does it knowingly so that they feel like THE BEST TOP DOG ALPHA MALE is a fucking insecure little faggot.
>> Anonymous
I know too many over-sensitive people to do that anymore.
Plus I'm so goddamn manly my body hair alone is enough to belittle the people around me GDOOSHHHHH

Lol leader of the pack my ass. I don't care if i'm the outcast or what not. but i can sure fuck that leader up so hard his mom won't fucking recognize him

seconded.
Its what guys do, I'm like this with some of my best friends.
It takes me a while from moving from friendly greetings and banter to punching each other and taking the piss but when it happens you feel like your part of the pack.

>not vidya/weeaboo types, but frat boys, jocks and generally people who get laid and play Halo

did you fuck an entire fool team before realizing the obvious slut?! that's their way of bonding like another click has their usual bonding rituals. Now go back with your insecure friends with daddy issues to be used like a sex toy by people that don't love you

Compensation. They're compensating for the lack of intimacy with... this. I guess.

It's the easy way to get a laugh. Men love getting a laugh or positive attention, and finding insults is relatively easy. I also believe it was popularized over several raunchy comedies.

Usually, it involves some type of intimate knowledge about the other person (knowing he tried to bang a fattie when he was drunk last weekend). It implies, "Hey, I know you. We're close," without squooshy feelings getting in the way.

It makes their penises harder.

I dunno... I'm just throwing shit out here...

Because it's fun.

Socrates found that most people could not explain their behavior, what drove them to complete actions, or made them happy. I believe this behavior is the very epitome of actions without forethought. They see that this makes other men "happy" (or so on the inside), proves they aren't an oversensitive faggot, lets them connect with the other men (choosen bonding method of millennial men), and provides a connection. It's an answer to, "I don't want to be a faggot, but have close male relationships." But like I said earlier, they won't be able to explain it, and I'm assuming it was just picked up from television and watching other male groups interact.

OP when I'm doing it with close friends we're just doing the "low-level-trolling" just like Anonymous said. It's like me trolling on 4chan. It's a form of teasing. When we're not doing that we shake each others hands, call each other "sir", hold doors open for each other. Say please and thank you, and talk about things in a serious relaxed manner. The insults aren't really serious business at all. It's fun and games.
