ok fit
today i upped my weights by a lot when i lifted for an hour. basically my idea was to 'shock the body' into building muscle mass (and burn fat).

my instructor was saying that if whenever you lift, you lift at maximum capacity, you only have to weightlift about twice a week.

i don't now if this is true or not, because it's the first time i've heard it, but it kind of makes sense to me. what i normally do now is lift 3-4x a week at a moderate level, and i don't really feel tooo sore the next day.

tl;dr- is it better to max out at 2 days per week? or just do moderate 3-4x/week?

thanks for any help, /fit/. when i was doing squats, i was thinking of you.

btw fwiw, im female, 5'4" 140lb

Girl here too.

My schedule won't allow me to go to the gym more than twice a week (they close early on weekends!) so I both can and try to lift as heavy as possible. I have no idea if it's a good idea or not, but I have gotten some pretty good results so far

I have no idea if its better, but I'm on a 2 day push/pull split. I've been making gains and I lift close to my max on all the exercises.

if you truly work the muscles to exhaustion then you only need to work out 1 or 2 times a week. the problem is then you cant do anything afterward because you're too damn weak until your body repairs itself. then theres also the question of what muscles you're looking to buff up... either way, you can always try it and see how you like it. otherwise you can always change your routine again

Lifting weights will make you mannish. Don't do it.

OP here. thanks, I think this is what I"m looking for. Injecting max lifting at intervals is probably the answer for me.

What, twice a week?

I guess if you're just doing it for exercise, then twice a week is fine, but 4 times a week would be more beneficial for getting stronger. 2 days of max effort, 2 days of speed work.

Well no, but usually it is, considering they are either the best or one of the best in the world.

The base of my program is Westside, but I do my own variation of it.

best in the what?

you see fewer and fewer champions out of Columbus now a days.

NONE on the IPF (international) stage
and they d/n even dominate the WPO when that was functional.
you only read about them occassionally in local APF meets
so much for your be all and end all.
real life and proper science has caught up. westside is just marketed like a motherfucking brand to everyone, like OMG 5x5.
