hey there /fit/

Are isometric exercises worth doing? What are they for and what kind of results can one expect? My wrists and shoulders are bad, and now its winter they are aching a bit. Would isometrics be easier on them than weights and pushups?

Wow. I guess body builders aren't hip to isometrics.

yogafag here, its the best isometrics in the world, thought technically some things are done through motion. Worth doing, should help strengthen joints, which could ease the pain. Make sure you are getting enough healthy fats, too.

But will it help put on muscle? Will it tone? What exactly does it do?

The right kind will. Search Rodney Yee, and look for his Power Yoga dvd, it can be found at target stores and gaiam(dot)com. Yoga's weird because it strengthens more than it adds muscles, and if you look at Rodney, he's decently buff, but not large. However, he can do head stands in the lotus position and other gravity-defying arm lifts and balances, in other words, mega strong.

Well strength without bulk is muscle tone so I guess thats what it does. Which is exactly what I want. I want strength and stamina for acrobatics, but retain as much of my lithe physique as possible.
