Alright, son. I'm going to help you out here. For a long time my family doctor was the head of a mental health board.
Here are some important things to remember.
1) Exercise, exercise, exercise. It's been scientifically proven to increase mood and self-esteem. If you're not doing it already, start doing it
2) 8 hours of sleep. Extremely important, too little sleep makes you agititated and too much sleep has a negative effect on your mood.
3) An active social life: This is important, though not as important. Having an active social life allows you to displace your depressed fairly easily--whereas sitting at home, alone, you're left brooding about it for the entire day. A social life allows you to change your mental states more easily.
4) Make absolutely sure there's not an outside reason. Such as not doing anything with your life, not having a girlfriend and being lonely, etc. If it's a legitimate problem you're worried about, then it's that and not the drugs. Explain that to your doctors.
5) Anti-depressants are meant to be taken in two cases. One is that you're going through a rough patch in life, and they're to help you get out of it, get therapy/over it and drop them. The other is a chemical imbalance that causes you to be unable to function in a perfectly happy scenario.
