I have pectus excavatum and don't know shit about it. Is there anything bad about having it? Like not being about to run much or is that just because I have no stamina? cutdown on oxygen? pressure on the heart?

About that. Expect no sports or intense physical activities for awhile. It can cause twisting. I got mine twisted. It was pretty bad.

kinda of scared something will go wrong though or I may not be comfortable with it or something

given that everyone in this thread is being fucking retarded, i'll give you some information. pectus excavatum isn't bad for you. its an aesthetic thing, it just makes you look different. i have pectus carinatum (opposite of what u got, my chest goes OUT a lil on the left side). i'm pretty fit and run about 12 miles a week to keep my cardio good. there's never any issue with breathing or stamina. only problem with me is lying on a surfboard can get uncomfortable. i saw a few specialist surgeons about my chest and they all said that lots of guys have carinatum/excavatum but in varying degrees, and most of them have no problem with it physically. there are surgery options but they're kinda intense, and ill expand on that if you want. hope this helps alil.

Well, again, the procedure is difficult. That's why only a few surgeons do it. But trust me, the few that do it professionally are very good at it. You'll barely know it's there once it's in. You're not gonna be able to do anything intense, like sports, while it's in, but you can still take walks and go on jogs and still stay fit. Your doctor will discuss this with you in greater detail.

Recovery took about a week for me, and I was able to move regularly after about a month or so. Much better then the 6 month recovery plan of the old procedure. That's outdated and extremely dangerous now, do you'll won't be getting that one.

Eh whatever, I have pectus and I can work out and do things I love without getting tired quickly. I don't feel uncomfortable when I take off my shirt. When people see it and question it, I just laugh and make them look bad out in the field. Feel free to sign this.

Chances of infection from the procedure is less then 1%, and chances of relape after the bar removal is extremely slim. It's a very safe procedure. The only time you'd die from it is if your surgeon is extremely shitty.

Again, follow the link I posted. They'll have some better information.

oh, huh. so that's what it's called. didn't know what it was. congenital eh, i guess i'll just have to take myself out of the gene pool.

Well, mine wasn't terrible, but it still affected me. The thing is, it can get worse over time for some people.

If you have it, it's probably a good thing to atleast talk to a doctor about. Some people don't need the surgery, but I certainly did. It was a long and sometimes painful process, but I'm happier and healthier because of it.

is there a certain age where the procedure can't be done like can it be done on like 12 year olds and shit?
>> Anonymous
no one is the same. most people are unaffected by pectus excavatum/carinatum. some people are. just talk to your doctor.

Not that I'm aware. I got it done when I was 14, I believe. My sister also had the procedure done at about the same time, and she's 2 years younger then me. So, it's a very safe procedure for even young children.
