Hey /b/, coming here for a quick (I think) question. I recently started doing pushups every day in order to build up my arms/shoulders/chest. I do a good amount each day, though every day now my arms are sore. This isn't really a problem for me, but I remember learning a long time ago that when working out, you should work out a different part (upper body, lower, etc.) each day. I wasn't sure whether or not I should be keeping a day between each for relaxing.

Long story short: Should I just continue doing push ups each day to the max, with no change, or should I do something about soreness/relaxing days?

Your muscles need time to rebuild, what you heard about doing a different section for your body everyday is true. You should work your arms one day, then you core muscles the next day, and then your legs the next. Doesn't hurt to also take a break every two cycles.

Muscle soreness is your body telling a particular muscle area needs rest to rebuild.

whether or not you need to rest depends on the type of exercise, and how strenuous you're doing it. if you're at the point where your muscles are sore every day, you should probably rest on those days, or just do fewer pushups every day

It is recommended to wait 36 hours prior training the same muscle again.
