how do i work out these muscles. (i think they are the external obliques).
looked around for it on the net. all any site says is to hold a bar behind your head and rotate.
i need something with more resistance that uses heavier weights.

There's machines at the gym that use the same motion with weights. You could by a rubber band and stick it in a door and do the same motion. By some dumbells or a medicine ball and do sideways crunches. Also planks.

Lay on your side with your knees bent up forming approx 90 degree angle. Then life your upper body toward the ceiling and back down in smooth controlled motions.

just hold a db and do sidebends, not two dbs, one db
