I want to buy a treadmill. Can anyone recommend a decent one? Im probably going to end buying a used one but if I can get a new one for a little more. I might go that route. I've looking a the stuff they have at wal-mart. They look pretty cheap, but i figure you get what you pay for.

First ask yourself, do you really NEED one? It's much better to go out jogging than run on some pos treadmill from walmart. If you absolutely must run on one, join a health club and use their high quality ones.

Don't get a treadmill, get a fucking elliptical machine. I'm tellin ya man, treadmills are a waste of time.

You can usually find a decent used one for half the price.

Right about now is a great time find a used one. A lot of people get them for Christmas or for a new year's resolution and give up and look to get rid of them now.

As for recommendations, check out the ones at the stores to see what you like. Make sure it fits in your place and that you fit in it. Most stores will let you try it for a minute in the store. Make sure it is wide enough for you to move, and long enough that you can use a full running stride (you may never actually use it like that, but it's great to have that option) Also look for the options that you want, at minimum it should be easy to use and have some type of drink holder.

Use what you learn at the store to look through the ads for the used ones and you might score a great deal.

the worst thing about a treadmill is when you get off, your body still thinks you are going forward, so it takes a few minutes for your body to slow down, even if you are just sitting there.

I figured I can just hop that thing for 30-45min before I go to bed. Going to the gym is too much of the hassle and theres really no where to run around here. I dont want to go jogging down the street like some asshole. As for room, I have a pretty big patio I was going to put it outside.

Why is the elliptical so much better?

Some people like elliptical because there is less impact. Instead of the pounding that your knees and ankles can take from walking/running, your feet stay with the surface.

Try one out when you are checking out the other equipment, some people don't like the restricted motion that an elliptical gives. It can take some getting used to, and some people who are very tall or short sometimes don't fit into the elliptical ranges of motion.

You may feel comfortable doing so, I do not. Hence the treadmill.
