Ok /fit/, I know you aren't all doctors but I'm pretty sure this is health related. I carry an obscene amount of water weight... I think. I've been losing weight over a long period of time, from about 220 down to around 175 where I've sat. I've noticed I can gain or lose 5 pounds a day, and an inch or an inch and a half on my waist. Is this something I should go to the doctor for? I know I've heard that water retention can sometimes be a sign of an actual medical issue, but lots of things can be a sign of a medical issue.

no, it's normal. Eat less sodium if you want to retain less water.

I do eat bacon eggs and biscuts and gravy every morning for breakfast... fills me up and then I eat light for the rest of the day. Guess I'll have to start switching it out. I've noticed that every night at about 8 my body starts dumping the water. I dunno how I'm going to do a low carb low sodium diet. These military chow halls, everything is loaded with sodium.

Is this you?

Just weigh yourself weekly under the same conditions i.e. drink around the same amount of water every day and weigh yourself first thing in the morning, your bound to be a different weight at the end of the day. I watched this for a few weeks and by the end of the day i'd be 4-8lb heavier than what i was in the morning.

I'm not sure it's THAT normal to retain that much water weight unless you eat a ton of food on most days of the week. Try cutting down your food intake for a little while also, unless you have a need to keep calories bumped up.
