Hey /fit,
So I am 6'0, 229 lb.s, male, and according to the internet have a BMR of about 2250-2500. So I figured if I want to lose some weight, I should bring my caloric intake down to 2000 and of course exercise 5 times a week, both cardio and weights (of course including squatz...). Now I feel fucking great, have way more energy, and have lost some weight. Here's the problem: maybe it is a little too much weight. I am worried that the weight I am losing is muscle and not fat, and that idea is concerning. I have lost about 10 pounds in 20 days. Is this a problem, /fit?

no, ur body is just not used 2 it....that happens usually....rapid weight loss in the beginning...and it begins to plateau....

If you want, you can get a fat caliper and/or go to the doctor to measure your bf% ... and do so every week or something to make sure you aren't losing muscle (or at least, not too much)

Has your fluid intake changed? Sometimes that can cause huge differences in weight. Hell if im sick i usually dont endup drinking much and i endup 5-10 pounds lighter then usual. DRINK MOAR WATER!

If you've just gone from a shitty high calorie diet to the one you described, it's totally normal.

I can retain up to 10 lbs/5 kg of weight (neither fat nor muscle) and lose all of it within 4-8 days if I play around with my food intake and fluid levels.

Food volume contributes, but more specifically glycogen which is stored carbohydrate in the body gets "soaked up" into your bodily tissues (organ and muscle) and can cause massive weight gain in a short time, as well as water gain from the increased carbohydrate.

It's a normal loss. You can expect it to slow down now. Don't forget to readjust your calorie intake the more you lose it.
