So /fit/ 2 days ago i started to do some upper body work
(arms, back, and chest) and after my work out my arms felt a bit sore
so i wake up this morning and my arm is killing me it hurts if i try you flex or extend it past a 90degree angel.
is it serious or did i just strain my self?

pick related: thats where it hurts

You just started to do upper body work. You said you worked arms and back which i presume in there involved movements with your biceps. It happened to me as well when I first started training, my biceps and upper forearm become extremely sore and I was barely able to extend them at all.

It's annoying as hell but you should be fine. It went away for me in about a week and never came back as bad throughout the rest of my training.

woo thinks anon you a life saver
this is not my first time lifting weights, but i had to stop for about 3 months due to moving to a new house.

exact same thing went for me when I first started. It's never nearly as bad in your workouts to come. But the very first time is killer.

Yeah three months might be enough to induce some muscle atrophy, depending on your body type and training before hand.

That being said, you're basically just "cleaning the rust off."

Hey OP, what you have is ABSOLUTELY normal. I've been lifting consistently for about 6 years. I still remember my first bicep workout back when I was in high school: dumbbell bicep curls and preacher curls. The next day, I looked like a mummy because I was not able to fully extend my arms past 90 degrees. It went away after about 5-6 days. You're body is just getting used to the strain. I would suggest taking some aspirin or bengay if the pain is that unbearable. Otherwise, just man it up. You'll be able to lift harder and more in the future without so much pain. First time's always a bitch.

I went through the exact same thing.

Also OP, I wouldn't suggest trying to force your arms to extend. I did that and well, really regret it. It just made things a lot worse.
