Sup /fit/ I am going to start a jogging routine tommorrow. Never have done it before. I am a fairly out of shape person. I use to lift weights, but laziness has piled on alot of pounds and a protruding gut.

What kind of things do I need and what should I do and how long should I jog for?

Do some squats beforehand to warm up your legs and stretch them out.

Also drink lots of water beforehand and jog until you\'re tired.

start small.. thats the best piece of advice I can give.

depending on your fitness level
start jogging for 10mins(or 5km) everyday for a week.. to allow muscle to build up in your legs.
then 20mins.(10km) for a week. Keep increasing the time or distance until you are happy with the time or dist.

-Make sure you warm up and warm down before and after.
-drink plenty of water.
-maybe run with a small water bottle to keep hydrated.
-Also ALWAYS set your self a goal. example try an do a run with a average time of less than 4minutes a km. Work towards a goal.

I do lots of cardio and I ride from one town to another and back again in a certain amount of time. and my goal is to do that as fast as possible.

I'm 19 from. I ran in a endurance event and i looked at the reconmended times for each course and it works out to be 4:30 a Km for the first 20 then it goes up from there..

but that's still 90minutes for 20 Km.
nearly 4 mins for 800m race.
and I'm sure the WR is under 2minutes.

so I don't see why a goal of under 4minutes a KM is unreasonable.

The OP said they're out of shape, I think even 10 minutes everyday is pushing it in the beginning. That's a recipe for some bitchin shin splits. In the beginning, 2 times a week, maybe 3. Depending on how out of shape (fat) OP is, even running a mile (1.6km) once a week will net results in the beginning.

Just do it OP and after a few weeks start looking to up the distance or decrease the time.

It is unreasonable for most people and you have no place giving that advice to someone who has never ran before, twice.

It would be better to run frequently and for less than less for more.

I did say for example. I suppose. Didn't really think before I posted this. They are more challenges I was looking at.
I agree with 3 times a week and less distance or time.

Yeah my bad. All good intentions though.
