Hi, /fit/ I'm working on my abs but I dont have one of those pads and hate lying down on the floor, does this work like crunches?

Hell if I know, but I am definitely going to add this to my routine.

leg lifts to NOT work the abs; they work some muscles in the hip. The only reason your abs burn when you're doing this is because of a stationary contraction in your lower abdominals for support; this contraction does not build the abs, though. Only ab workouts in which you round the lower back can work out your lower abs.

This is the one you want to do. The only difference is that you're curling your lower back at the end of the motion.

Depends on how you're doing them. If you're keeping your lower back muscles tight, then you're probably putting most of the stress in your hip abductors. It isn't necessarily bad, just a bit more weight than they're used to handling.

If you are rounding your back, then you are hitting your abs; you may still hit those hip muscles, though.
