Today was my first day at a real job, working at CVS, and my feet, ankles and knees hurt. How can I alleviate the pain enough that I don't limp all day at work tomorrow? I don't have to money to buy better shoes until my first paycheck.

Make sure you don't lock your knees. Move around a little bit. Deal with the pain (there's nothing you can do to completely avoid it until you get used to it). Put your feet up when you get home. Maybe ice them a little (20 minutes or less) afterwork. Stretch them and rub them (flex your ankles, rub your soles). Aaaand that's about it for now.

lol no locking knees? Why exactly?

I can understand if he's a dumbass and walks and jumps with locked knees (been there done that not comfortable) but I doubt he does that

avoid caffiene
drink milk or eat something with calcium
eat some protein
stetches or massages or a hot bath may help
lay down and put your feet up on something so they're elevated
get as much rest as you can even if you aren't sleeping

the other posts are right, this happens to teachers and other people who stand all day. Your legs are just not used to it.

from working a register and a restaurant job and going to many shows, I'm going to have to say standing in one place for a long time and not walking around is significantly worse than walking around (assuming you meant as a waiter.)

you can buy 4 insoles for 2 dollars at CVS. or nice gel insoles for more. Insoles will help protect your feet.

Machine washable insoles are better. Then you can rotate your insoles so your shoes stay dry and not smelly.

Well, I would have never considered that! Thank you for the enlightenment!

I'm losing at 3-5 pounds a week. I'm pretty sure I'm already doing that.

You'll get used to it. Trust me. Give it 2 weeks before you start "treating" the problem.
