Well, I guess it's time for a helpful response. I feel your pain bro.
I fractured my lower back playing football my sophomore year in highschool. Since then I've had two lumbar fusions because the pain never stopped. It's been over three years since I broke it and about 8 months since my last surgery.
This one definately feels better than my back did after my 1st surgery (the damn surgeon was a noob, only 3 years out of his residency), so I'm optimistic. But anyways, let's talk what you can do.
I was so damn scared of effing up my back again after my last surgery. I don't know how similar a spinal cyst is to pars fractures, but I know it hurts like hell to move and you can't do much more than lie down. Hell, when I was recovering, I had my family set up a projector on the ceiling just so I could do something with my time (I don't reccomend this, cuz I basically developed the beginnings of carpal tunnel XD).
Do not, and I repeat, DO NOT push yourself. If you feel any twinge of pain you need to immediately STOP. In the first few weeks, take short walks. If it's convinient, use a walking stick or walker. Walk at least twice a day, but remember slow and steady. Slowly increase the duration till you can walk around the block at around 1 month.
Physical therapy is more than just flexibility, they help you with scar tissue and muscle atrophy too. Definitely do that. Anyways, I'm probably just babbling now. Just remember to take it slow. You can always loose the weight later.
I have a hella large body type - my ideal weight is about 200-220 (yeah, I played lineman). Over the past 3 years of debilitation, I've gained over 100 lbs. Yep, I'm fucking 320 pounds. Don't let your situation get you down.
