I recently got a job as a landscaper and started working Monday. I have been working my balls off since and noticed I lost 5 pounds (to 165) on Wednesday. However, on Thursday I noticed I had gained two pounds rather than losing weight.

So, Is it possible to build muscle faster than you loose weight?

Yes, it's easy, but your weight will fluctuate by that much all the time. I weighed myself the other day, and I was five pounds heavier than the day before and the day after. You probably had just taken a dump on the 165 day.

thats obvoiusly water weight... right now im 133 but at times it iwll go up to 135-138 or 130 depending on when i look at weight

usually 130 in morning and 136ish in night

Bullshit, there's a million different things that affect how much muscle you gain, you can't just say it's 10 lbs a year at max, for everyone. If you're a beginner with even mediocre genes, and start with a well planned diet/rest/exercise regime straight off the bat, 10kg (~22lbs) a year is far from impossible

2. If you work out or are involved in physical labor, you will tend to lose fat. This reduces your body weight.

Anyway, the guy was only making a reasonable estimate, and he was talking about a guy who was already in good shape.

If you're in lousy shape, you can gain muscle a lot faster than if you're already strong and fit. Your body has a naturally healthy level of muscle, and if you're under it, you can pull up to it very quickly. It's pushing up above it that's hard.

And he *still* wasn't saying that that was an upper limit for the guy. He was saying that 10 lbs in one year was a reasonable goal, not the absolute best he could possibly do.
