So, I realized I'm really chubby, so I want to start working out. I want to go out and buy either some weights or a treadmill which would be better to start me out?

You can run without a treadmill. Lifting without weights will be tougher. If you just want to lose fat without worrying about muscle gain (presumably you do, in the near term), you should be able to do adequate resistance training with bodyweight exercises.

Buy a door frame pull up bar and do pushups on top of phone books. Run at the park or somewhere scenic and you'll get some sun while you do.

You don't need weights yet. If you really want a treadmill though and can afford it, go for it. Maybe get an eliptical if you can. It is pretty cool to be able to run and watch tv.

If you're really poor, go to your local hardware store and buy 60lbs of sand for 4 dollars. Put sand in some bags, wrap em in tape for protection (so they don't break as easy) and bingo, you know have weights. Well done.

You can do good cardio w/out a treadmill. Running outside is better, or if you're indoors you can do squat thrusters w/small dumbbells and burpees with nothing.

Anyhow, I'd suggest buying some adjustable dumbbell collars and a few plates. Once you're sure you really care and have made fitness training a habit, you should consider gym membership, so you can do SQUATZ.

Read this book:

also, look online in classified or head to a store, I bought an 80lb dumbbell set plus a barbell for 50 bucks at Canadian tire. You should be lifting light and doing some form of cardio everyday. READ THE BOOK.
