I have the TMJ. The cracking noises mean that the ball joint is sliding in and out. Since you're not locking / FUCKED IN THE ASSHOLE WITH PAIN, you probably don't have full blown TMJ yet.
-Stop eating anything chewy or crunchy. ANYTHING. -Stop chewing your fucking nails. -Stop grinding your teeth. If you don't grind them, you probably grind them in your sleep. Go talk to your dentist right away for a night guard.
Put ice on both sides of your jaw for 20 min. a day, three times a day, plus whenever it starts to hurt.
A good exercise is to move your jaw as far forward as you can, then open / close your mouth past the point of clicking. If it still makes the noise, move it back a little. Repeat until you've found a spot where you can open and close your mouth without clicking. KEEP YOUR JAW AT THIS POSITION AS OFTEN AS YOU FUCKING CAN. This position keeps the joint in its socket. The more time its in the right place, the more time it has to heal / readjust itself. You can fix this if it's early enough.
