Hey guys, so I know 5x5 is like the pefect routine for building strength and stuff, but which particular muscles should it be used with and which should it not be used with?

Obviously, we're doing it with the legs, bis, tris and chest, but should it also be done on the abs and back? My friend said that one of his friends said that to get the best results for abs, don't use weight, just do declining crunches, but that sounds like bullshit to me. I know it's all about quality and resistance over quantity... am I right?

lurk moar and you should know what 5x5 is.

You should also know how to get abs.

I know what 5x5 is asshole, I've been here for months. It's just now I'm getting conflicting information from two different sources. I trust /fit/ more rather than some random guy I don't know from Harrisburg, PA, so I just want to know what /fit/ has to say about his claim that adding weight to ab excercises is wrong.

>adding weight to ab excercises is wrong.

it's not wrong to add weights, but adding weights does not play as much as a big factor compared to other major muscle. abs are mostly about bf and not too much about muscle mass. some add weights when they feel like they can really squeeze the abs a lot harder with more resistance and do not want to be doing a lot more body weight ab workout for longer time.

5*5 isn't the best. 5*5 is a good option, but not the best, there is no best. Different routines for different goals. If you are going purely for strength, go 8*3, if you want big muscles, go 3*8.

Back > Dead lifts > I'd like to see you go do reps in the hundreds on this with any decent weights.

You want big abs? go do a bench press, lock out your arms when you're on top and do curls with the weight still hanging there, do 3*8. Shitoads of repetitions build slow twitch fiber muscles, they are generally small, if you want to see examples of builds of pretty much only slow twich fiber muscles, go look at marathon runners.

OP, this is what you need to do, go to a library, and get a fucking book about muscles to understand what the fuck is it that you are doing.
