Yoga, /fit/.

I'm looking to take up an evening class this autumn in yoga to help with stress/relaxation and just because i'm curious of the benefits.

What does /fit/ think of yoga? Anyone felt the benefits of it?

good for posture, flexibility and relaxation

It does make me feel really good/relaxed for a while.

Kicks ass.

It has helped me with flexibility and breathing. Definitley helps my squats and deads.

Also my instructor is racked.

Are there different types of yoga i need to look for? Or does it all just fall under the big ol tree of 'yoga'.

basic hatha yoga.... which is most places you'll find.

stay away form pilates unless you're in shape/flexible its a lot tougher.

also i'd start with 'cold yoga', which is slower and more breathing/stretch oriented, whereas 'hot yoga' has more statics and is faster/tougher (still does breathing etc.)

Here's a site with free videos. They make all kinds of silly new age claims, but that's fine by me. Just makes me smile during practice.

really, really, really over-rated. certainly is not a fat-burner like some forms claim, and you're more likely to get a proper endorphin rush after a proper strenuous workout which gives real benefits in terms of relaxation and stress-relief, etc.
