what sort of general set/rep numbers are the norm/should be used in routines?I usually shoot for 5 sets 10 reps
5x5 for beginners.

i do a lot of different sets and reps.4 sets 10-15 reps in some weeks, and when that is going slow i switch to:5 or more sets max 6 repsIm looking more at the total workload (sets * reps * weight)..
Just go to failure with the lightest weight in the gym. You will get an incredible burn and pump.
