Taekwondo, what does /fit/ think of it?
Trying to find a martial art and where i live theres not alot of choice.

If the area where you study doesn't focus only on forms all day and does a good amount of sparring then it isn't too bad.

if thats all you've got, its better than nothing.

Thanks, what about muay thai or karate?
Would it be possible to do two at the one time or would that get too confusing?
>> Anonymous
>>287142
what kind of karate?

nah bra' 2 different MA's shouldn't be a problem as long as they're not on the same day
def take muay thai, if you're wanting to get into great shape.

If you have the stamina for them go ahead. Karate and taekwondo are the same thing more or less. Muay Thai should be better than either but personally I think it's a good idea to learn some TKD at least. Most people are going to say Karate/TKD are shit though.

always keep an open mind it is better to avoid any conflict when possible...

boxing is always an option.

As a taekwondo 2nd dan, there are a lot of shit clubs. I watch a lot of black belt grading videos on Youtube and facepalm.

There isn't really a good martial arts schoolreview site as well. There's Bullshido, but that's geared towards a very specialised view of what martial arts should be about.

and what is that?

Don't do WTF Taekwondo whatever you do. Make sure its ITF.

Nice for workout and impressing mouthbreathers. Just don't even think about being able to use whatever you learn in a real life situation.

This is the only martial art that is useable in real life

That's retarded. Staged fights are retarded but staged fights with guns are an extra special form of dementia.

TKD CAN be great. TKD by it's self is tons of fun and we cross train at my school as well. Been doing it 10+ years and teaching for 6 or so and I still love it. Avoid McDojo's and you'll be in good shape.

Because hitting people really hard isn't effective amirite?

Training to just tap people with your feet and hands to get points instead of training to hit people with with your feet and hands to knock them out?

*sigh*
the vast majority of TKD/Karate in the US is 'sport' and focused around making money (which doesn't happen if your customers get hurt). McDojo, belt factory, etc.

That being said, there exist a few good TKD schools that aren't 'sport' oriented.

>Avoid McDojo's

How exactly does one who may be looking to get into some martial arts training but who doesn't know quite so much about tell the difference between good and bad schools?

Anybody who isn't retarded can see a taekwando kick coming ages before it hits. And you're fucked if they take a step any closer than leg range.

Obviously you have only seen the sport and formal application side of taekwondo.

People who fight competitions (and are good) are usually far faster and have ways of making kicks faster.

I've fought At british and european championships, learnt my fighting from taekwondo mainly, and have no problem defending myself. Even with kicks.

bullshido.net is all you need for mcdojo detection skills

If the olympic TKD is anything to go by, stay away from it.
That shit looks horrible.

It's kind of tough to film a real, spontaneous fight in front of an audience. The video is supposed to just show what the techniques could look like. I'm sure a Krav Maga instructor would have no problem handling himself in a real fight.

muay thai.
it's realistic, tkd is not. tkd-ppl have their hands along the side of the body, why? why no punches to the face? why no low-kicks? why no kicks with POWER. TKD only has these fake shit kicks, flying around touching eachother.

Muay thai is elbows, knees, HARD kicks and punches to the face.

Olympic is nothing like normal taekwondo. So no worries there.

TKD is great for cardio as you will be moving along during sparring sessions, and the kicking is very tiring.

Muay thai fag above me doesnt have a clue what he's talking about. Olypmics is pointless as a judge for TKD. Most people are taught to keep defence up. Even during moves and recover the defence after fuckups.

tae kwon do is a scam. if someone who does it tells you otherwise, it's because they don't want to believe it because they've spent so much money on it. do anything but tae kwon do.
