hey /fit/ i have a running question.
im not much of a runner, and i havent done any in a long time because of school etc... but i find that when i run on a treadmill i can go longer then if i was running at the same speed/ same time but on a regular surface.
my question: is there any difference in your cardio if you run on a treadmill compared to on a track/ road?

The main difference is elevation change and surface variety.

Both of those help build better endurance and muscle strength. But a treadmill can simulate hills, so you've got one of the two.

But nothing is as great as running through the open air. I implore you to reconsider.

it taxes your muscles less because the surface absorbs your impact.

OP here: so generally, they give you the same type of cardio benefits?

Same thing happens with me. I can run far longer on treadmills than if I went to the park and ran. When I run at the park I always get shin splits, I don't get them on treadmills. Maybe I'm running wrong or something, who knows.

Same here, I try to run 3-4 miles every day, but I do it on the treadmill because I don't like seeing people watch me run.

I'm looking to seriously push myself, and I can feel it when I run on the treadmill (3 miles in 19 minutes)

Am I cheating myself a little by not running outside? I just feel that I'd probably run a shorter distance since my neighborhood is hilly.
