I hear 1g/lb a lot for bulking, but how much protein should you get if you're trying to lose weight? I take this stuff after workouts (I do strength training in addition to my cardio) and I'm trying to stick to a 60/20/20 macronutrient ratio, but I keep getting conflicting information on how much protein I actually need.

Would 1g/2lb be about right? Under the 60/20/20 ratio, that's not nearly enough.

i dont know the answer to your question explicitly, but make sure you watch how much of those kinda things you eat when you're trying to lose weight. they're usually aimed at people trying to bulk and often have a ton of calories

I kinda suspected this. On a related note, do you think casein protein would be a better bet for someone losing weight?

protein doesnt have a lot of calories. only half the calories per gram as fat or carbs, and most whey is light on those. Whey protein is not a weight gainer, it's a protein supplement which is good for gaining and losing. As far as the ratio, just make sure you get enough protein first and essential fats, then make up the rest of the calories you need with carbs and see where that leaves you. also 100g carbs a w/o day, 70g on an off day.

casein is actually very good for losing weight. your body will go into starvation mode much slower.

Well 1 serving of ON Double Rich Chocolate has 150 calories, which isn't too bad at all, but it's definitely more than just protein calories. I was kinda surprised to see saturated fat listed on there, but again, only 150 calories.

I use some cheapass Wal-Mart whey protein and it's 100 calories per serving of 52 g of protein. That's definitely fine for using for weight loss.

52g? Damn, that beats the shit out of ON.

Whoops sorry, it's actually 26g for 105 calories.

I was looking at the double-serving information. Incidentally, it's Body Fortress brand. pic related, $11 for 2lbs.
