I've been doing weighted pull-ups for a few months and my back has exploded. I use many variations, wide and narrow, overhand and underhand, parallel grip, etc.
The most important thing is technique. Just imagine and feel your lats doing the work instead of your biceps. When doing back exercises of any sort, it's important to do the pulling motion fast and explosive. Be sure to pause and "squeeze" your back at the top of the movement, like somebody is going to hit you there. Then lower it at a moderate pace, about 2-3 seconds.
