Hey /fit/, I want to learn how to jump. As in, really high, really difficult, really amazing jumps. How should I proceed? Any links you can recommend?
>> Anonymous
Air Alert 3 for hight, plus parkour for control and precision.

Thanks. More?
How long does it take for a fit beginner to learn how to do a backflip?

See if anyone in your area teaches Capoeira. That's what those two in the picture are doing, and it is Eddy's fighting style in Tekken. It's not an effective martial art, but it's a great work out, fun as hell, and you'll learn all sorts of crazy flips.

However much time it takes you to muster up the testicular fortitude to go for it.

Drag a mattress out onto your lawn and practice back flipping onto it (off of the grass nearby). When you get it down tight, scratch the mattress. Progress to concrete.

The other day I did a standing backflip while soaking wet, barefoot, in a bathing suit, standing on a wet tile pool-deck. The lifeguard shit bricks and sat me out, which I fully deserved because what I did was dumb (girls, lol).

put weight on your legs. start of with light weight on your ankles and jump like... forever. then you need to put heavier weights on your thighs and jump more. put them off and you will be able to jump over houses. thats what they did in the shaw brothers movie i saw.

Ankle weights are a horrible idea. When you jump, you'll be pulling your legs up while they pull your feet down, hyperextending all of your leg joints. Use a weight belt instead.

You want to jump high?

Train like this guy.

(Hint: The pic has a clue as to how he trains!)

Wanna jump high?
Look up "Le Parkour" and ignore all the rest. Parkour techniques are the best for body control and high jumps.

stupid

parkour isnt about JUMPIN HIGHHH YO!
its about effortless movement using the environment

explosive jumping is about powerful and flexible hips, stable ankles, and training your nervous system to perform coordinated, explosive movements. that's why that olympic lifter jumps so high

basically, squats w/ a focus on explosiveness, plyometrics depending on the condition of your knees, olympic lifts, lots of hip mobility stuff

agree

>>135231
oh and single leg squats if you can, both pistols and bulgarian split squats

Hey, if everyone here knows how to jump really high ... what was the highest each of you have ever jumped?
>> Anonymous
>>135225
Ideally and conceptually, sure. But the way it tends to be practiced tends to build jumpan skill and power pretty quickly.

>>134379
I've heard air alert is a good way to fux your knees.

I have a 3 foot vertical and 11 foot horizontal leap (from standing, of course), I built that from a combination of general strength training (squatz) with a focus on explosiveness, and plyometrics/applied training.
>> Anonymous
I have a 2'6'' vertical jump and a 10'8'' horizontal leap. Yeah, I suck. I know, but I'm trying harder at the athletics school project ...

Wall-running, I've touched 13 feet before..
>> Anonymous
>>136131
Wait, you ran up a wall and touched 13 ft high? Or you wall ran 13 ft across? A "wall run", from the usage I'm used to, refers to the horizontal one.

Centre guy runs off a block and a wedge to get that height, it's the same as jumping off a box on to an angle plane, THEN a wall.

Not saying these guys aren't mad skilled, landing that's fucking nuts, but it's got very little in terms of "ZOMG HOW DO YOU JUMP THAT HIGH" anyone can run up that, landing\tricking off it is the tricky bit.

Here's a pretty old cellphone picture of me touching about 11 feet. I can do much better now (like I said earlier, about 13 feet).

Wow, that's fuckin' rad. If you ever lock yourself outside the house, you can probably reach an open window to get inside!

>> Molon Labe !OWRNsS8xeo
Everyone may have already seen this, but it's the Dvinsk Clan. They are what I aspire to be...these guys have mad skillz.
