Quite true. Height is usually only an advantage for reach and activities that require leverage like rowing and swimming. Sometimes it's an aesthetic bonus, too, but from experience I'd say people tend to place more priority on facial features and build/general fitness.
You'll notice MMA fighters come in a variety of sizes, as well as sports that require the movement your own bodyweight, such as gymnastics and parkour. Sprinters and weightlifters tend to be of average heights, if I remember correctly, something to do with strength in relation to the distance of movement and flexibility.
Just don't play basketball unless you're as good as Earl Boykins.
