stretch marks Anonymous
Hello /fit/

I currently weigh 93 kilograms, I'm 18 years old and 6 and a bit feet tall. Ive put on 10 kilo's in the last 7 months since i finished school and started studying.

As a result of this weight gain, I've also gotten stretch marks on both sides of my waste, on the hip area 3 on each side. it is extremely embarrasing to take off my shirt now at the beach and when i go swimming. Im not fat, but these stretch marks are bad for my self esteem.

I need to know if they will go away, what I should do to treat them? How long will it be until they are gone? Why do I have them?

Please help, my self esteem is low and I havent had a girlfriend in 4 months

I wouldn't think you'd get stretch marks that are that bad with a 22 pound weight gain, but I guess you must've been a wiry guy.

This is from my personal experience from getting stretch marks as a fatty and then having them remain on my skin after weight loss. First, I'd suggest you lose some of that weight, preferably in conjunction with some exercise and resistance training while you're at it. Then you'll just have to wait for your skin to just rejuvenate naturally over a long period of time. Took my stomach at least 6 months before my stretch marks noticeably disappeared, and they remained there (albeit BARELY visible) still. I still have unsightly stretch marks inside of my elbow, but it's something I've gotten over and accepted.

I too was interested in seeing if there were any topical treatments or other alternative methods to getting rid of them quicker. But I think just time and getting back into shape are really the only way. Creams and dermatology visits don't work, in my opinion.

Do you get stretch marks when you get fat or lose weight?

When you lose weight extremely rapidly you'll get lots of loose skin.

Stretch marks can very depending on how rapidly someone gains weight. I grew up chunky and became pretty damn fat (5'9" and peaked at 280) but it was over the course of years. I had stretch marks at the base of my belly, inside of the groin, inside elbows, shoulders, but not so bad around the belly button. I have a friend who ballooned 70 pounds in less than a year and he has stretch marks in the same areas I did but significantly more pronounced and his stomach looked horribly scarred and streaked.
