So I'm thinking about joining Gold's Gym. It's a very nice facility, and it's $50/m. My only hesitation is that I've heard rumors of some questionable business tactics. Things like bullshit fine print that you have to give them your first born child if you ever want to quit, and even then they still might not let you.

Any truth there? Any experiences (good or bad) here with Gold's Gym?

Thanks!

Most of the bad testimonials I have read on-line are usually problems with the financing company that the gold's they applied to uses. When applying, check before hand to see what company they use so you can reference them on-line. Personally I've only been a member at two gold's gyms. At both gyms , the contract states you need to give a 30 day notice before cancelling ( I guess so they can charge you one last month ). Had to send certified mail to AZ for the first one and it went smooth aside from me not using the first one anymore and still paying for that last month. The second one I dealt with the gym directly and that went smoother. Other than that, read the contract and make sure it's straight with you ( bring a friend if your that paranoid, you come to 4chan of all places for help).

In order to cancel your contract (ever) you have to move 25 miles away from any Gold's Gym, mail a certified letter to their home office in Arizona, and pay $150.

$50 a month? Damn. It's 15,000 yen a month here.

Yep. It's crazy. If member dies, the family has to show up in person with the original (not copy) of the death certificate to get it canceled, and still has to pay the cancel fee.

I'm just letting my contract run out and not renew. Nothing in the print saying I have to renew.

actually if i recall correctly there is something in the fine print that says the contract renews automatically upon expiration. you might want to check that out, otherwise you're fucked :p

On my contract that only lists it as month to month.

I have a yearly contact and it has nothing in print saying that it automatically renews yearly.

So if they even want to attempt to nail me with any fees I'll just bring my copy of the contract to court.
