I'm just getting back into weightlifting after a long break. I just started stronglifts 5x5 this week and so far it's great, I like it better than my old shitty program.

What I am wondering though is it OK to do assistance exercises on the rest days in between my work days, or is that a bad idea? I like the feeling I get after workouts, and rest days seem kind of like a waste. Is there anything I could be doing to be productive, or is total rest more important?

Oh forgot to mention, I'm fairly skinny and trying to bulk up, if that matters

If you are training to failure or close to it, rest days are very important. No point wasting the high weight low rep workouts by screwing with the recovery time of the muscles. Just keep eating proper food while your muscles rest, and they'll be better than ever.

Cripes, Mr. Hyper, the rest time is when you GROW. The workout is to tear your muscle fibers to prepare them to GROW.
So leave them the hell alone and let them do what they're supposed to do!
