So, my mother's been on this H2O diet. She says she lost weight but I can't really notice, since she's my mother. 10 pounds so far though. She says it's really good and that's the most she's lost from any of her diets so I want to try it but I don't want to read the whole book.

I tried atkins before, skimmed through the first chapter or so, lost 5 pounds fast then quit after a month of not losing any more weight.

Anyone have any tips on how to get the main parts out of a diet book? I really don't want to read about how it works, or whatever. And I tried asking my mother, she just tells me I'm not fat and to read the book if I really want to know. She has mentioned she didn't do much exercise though, just her normal stretches, which was one of my problems with atkins...

TL;DR- I hate reading, how do I diet?

Monitor calorie and fat intakes for the day. Eat plenty of fruit, grains, and fish for energy.

Engage in no more than 30 minutes of hard aerobic exercise each day. I suggest jumproping 3 minutes in a row and a one minute break between sets to really shock your body.

Dieting is a bad idea--particularly fad diets like Atkins, which are known to have mixed results and could potentially be harmful. You usually regain the weight you lost (mostly water weight) plus additional weight, due to the slowing of your metabolism while you were depriving your body of nutrients.

tl;dr, dieting is a loser's game. Exercise more, and don't eat the whole fucking burrito.

the weight she lost is water weight, she lost probably little fat, maybe some muscle. When you drink shit loads of water and consume less sodium your body thinks it doesnt need to hold as much water so it purges some of it. This is why most ppl lose like 10lbs in the first week of a diet. Its not fat.

Find out how many calories you burn in a day (BMR + activity), subtract 500-1000 from that. Thats how many calories you want to eat in a day. Eat like 40% protein/40% carbs/20% fat of your calories to start out with. You can get protein from like boneless skinless chicken breast, whey protein, lean beef, tuna, cod, turkey, etc. The carbs you consume should be low in glycemic index (ie no sugars or bleached stuff) so eat like whole grain breads, oatmeal, brown rice - you can eat fruit too. And consume healthy fats like olive oil, natural pb, fish oil, etc. Do some cardio like running or what ever, and make sure you lift weights too so that your body doesnt catabolize its muscle over fat as much. Once you get into it read tom venuto's burn the fat feed the muscle, it has all you need to know.
