hello there /fit/

i've never worked out ever
i am 5'10" and 178lbs

im unhappy with my general appearance, im not overweight but im sure should definitely have more muscle mass for my body size
i have a bit of a belly and want to start working out before i get manboobs(they scare me)

could you please suggest some sort of exercise routine or post a link?

i have access to a schwinn bowflex ripoff (pic related)

also how often should i be working out?

thanks in advance

The best exercise you can do with that machine is to run into it headfirst over and over. It toughens your scalp and is what's known as a "compound" exercise because it works out many different muscles. It's good to jump before coming in contact with the machine to work on explosive power. 3-4 sets of 6-10 is good to start out with, a couple times a week. Tipping the machine over also stimulates a lot of muscles but make sure you're not over training, a mistake many novices make.

Your BMI is 25.5, making you overweight. Also, since you've never worked out, you can't blame your BMI on muscle.

well, you'll want to work out your abs, your external obliques, and also your pecs if you just wanna tone up a little bit. Pecs aren't that necessary at that point if you just dont want man boobs.

So what I do is do some cardio (running or such.. I play tennis every other day for a couple hours). I also walk briskly everywhere I go (don't own a car).

Then on the days I play tennis, before I go I do a couple reps of various exercises for my abs and external obliques. http://www.shapefit.com/training-abs.html is a good place to show you some of these. None of them really require the bench you have, but it can be used for some of them.

Then when I get back from Tennis I do a couple more reps of those exercises.

Hope that helps!

Also, take vitamins! :)

>more muscle mass

Sorry, machines won't really cut it. They are really only good for people who are injured and cannot exercise properly.
