What's your booze of choice /fit/?
>> Anonymous
I'd also like to know this. I love drinking beer, but I've given it up in the quest for a better body. Now I mostly drink sake and whiskey, but I'm wondering if there's a way to get both tore up and ripped.
>> Anonymous
I'm a rum kinda guy myself, but strangely enough my favorite cocktail is a vodka one, a white russian.

Why don't you just drink beer moderately?
>> Anonymous
>>475687

Uhhh, I'm quite sure that one can get "tore up" just drinking straight vodka. Try it. It's low in calories.

>>475701
No it's not. No alcoholic drink is.

>>475702
compared to beer you moron

anyway vodka is 97 calories for 1.5 oz

Calories in a shot (25ml) of Vodka: 55

lol. I don't know about you, but 10 shots of vodka makes for a pretty decent night. And at 550 cals? That's fine. I burn that in one work out session. And I don't eat my "2000 calories" a day, and if I do happen to eat my share, it's all in healthy food.

That assumes that the alcohol is fully metabolized into carbon dioxide, which generally is not true. Alcohol also speeds up metabolism, but larger increases are seen in appetite.

I drink a lot of whiskey straight. Sometimes Jack and Coke or Jack and Ginger. Sailor Jerry is my favorite rum, I drink that straight. Lately I've been taking a shot of cheap vodka and mixing it with like 5oz of beer (Fosters) and drinking that.

And yeah, I'm probably heading towards alcoholism but fuck it.

Sailor Jerry's, good man.

I'm a big rum fan, but have always enjoyed chugging dubious amounts of Southern Comfort.

for fucks sake, it has oats in it!

Just straight vodka is my favorite. Or gin and juice.

As far as oat stouts go, it's pretty weak. There's much better ones out there.

I'm a rum man myself.
Any way you cut it, it's good... be it straight from the bottle or in a cocktail (pina colada!), or in an old-fashioned grog if it's an undrinkable low-quality rum (remember the ingradients from the secret of monkey island?)

OATZ!!

I don't doubt that, but oatmeal stouts are hard to come by so this is one of the two I've tried. The other was Stone's anniversary oatmeal stout. Not bad, but way too bitter for that style IMO. Any good oatmeal stouts you recommend?
>> Anonymous
This is probably a retarded question, but how does alcohol metabolize? Would oatmeal stout be anywhere near as good as oatz? (In terms of nutrition)
>> Anonymous
>>477406
no. alcohol, of all the macronutrients (if you consider it one), has the highest affinity of fat conversion.

Oatmeal stouts are supposed to be bitter.

no. protein, carbohydrates, and lipids all have uses in the human body. Fats are commonly used in the endocrine system. Alcohol on the other hand has no use by the body, thus the majority of calories are stored as fat.

stop using retard logic. "if I just stop eating fat, I won't get fat" hurp durp

He means if gone unused.
Fat is already fat, it will be entirely converted to fatty tissue. Alcohol will have to be processed by the body into fat to begin with, a process which will burn up 30% of its own energy content. So only some 60-70% of alcohol's calories will be stored as fat. For carbs and protein, 30ish% get stored if consumed in excess.

Bitch.
>> Anonymous
>>477552

Fat has the highest calorie per gram which is why people believe that high fat = make you fat
>> Anonymous
>>477579
>>477552
Actually, gentlemen, it's called the thermogenic effect of food.>>477574has it right.
>> Anonymous
>>477579
While that's chemically true, you know people just believe it because FAT=FAT LOL. Those idiots.
>> Anonymous
>>477586
But you know, if consumed in excess after you've already omnomnom'd on a bunch of carbs, that fat does quite literally go straight to fat storage. This is why it's recommended you keep your fat and carbs separated by meal periods.

>>477579
fat = 9
alc = 7

pretty fucking close

alcohol oxidation increases NADH to NAD+ concentration (because the enzymes used to break down alcohol -> alcohol dehydrogenase and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase both use NAD+. What this ultimately means is that it slows down the krebs cycle and creates an overabundance of Acetyl CoA. Excess Acetyl CoA = Fat conversion.

BITCH

There's really no such thing as alcohol that "isn't as bad for you". The calories in any beverage will come from the alcohol content of the beverage + whatever else is along for the ride, be it a juice/soda mixer, unfermented sugars, floating chunks of barley and hops, etc.

Whatever % of the beverage is water will obviously not contain calories, so I guess pure vodka (which is basically watered-down grain alcohol) would be marginally less caloric than a beer. However, the vast majority of the calories will still come from the alcohol content, so the advantage is minimal. That advantage is more than made up for by beer being tastier than vodka.

So whatever drink you choose, it's going to be bad for you. If you're going to drink and you want to not get fat, choose something that tastes good and savor it when you drink it so that it lasts longer and you drink less. This will also prevent you from getting the drunk munchies and tacking on an extra 800-calorie meal at 2 AM.

Drinking on an empty stomach will get you drunk on less volume of alcohol, but your body will absorb the alcohol more efficiently. That absorbed alcohol will turn into fat, so while you drink less volume you also piss out less of the calories.

God dam people. As long as you aren't binging all the time your fine. Eat healthy, exercise, drink 2 drinks with a meal when your out with your buddies and enjoy life. Moderation, balance and variety
