Hey /fit/

I've always had a stigma against DDR, mainly because of the retarded kids at the mall playing it. Then when I actually tried the game out I had a lot of fun, and when you stop stumbling over your own feet, the game can actually turn into a good cardio workout.

They even have a workout mode if you so choose AND if you're an achievement whore like I am there's 2 360 versions of the game.

The quest mode is sort of long and drawn out but hey at least that will keep you wanting to play.

Anyone else play DDR for fitness purposes?

It's less efficient that running, but I have successfully lost quite a lot of weight playing DDR

No, I just play for my own enjoyment, honestly. It's kind of a side thing to running, cycling, and working out at the gym.

I'm thinking about using DDR to lose some weight too, but don't know how efficient it is.

Cheapest treadmill you can get.

The guys who get really good learn how to do all the super-difficult stuff while moving much less. It's ok for endurance, but you're only going to lose weight if you're already fat and you play without the bar.

I have pretty severe asthma, so exercising outdoors is pretty hard/risky for me, but I've got pretty good results with DDR.

I saw a guy who was good at the fast stepping. He pretty much just stood there, ass stuck out, flailing his scrawny turkey drummers while keeping his upper body completely immobile. It was such a pitiful sight it pretty much put me off DDR ever since.

If you're just playing for shits and giggles then you can have pretty good fun freestyling and choreographing bits to your favourite songs - and yeah, you sweat buckets after 10 minutes or so. The only downside I found is that my feet end up sticking to the dance mat (or slipping around, if I wear socks).

It'll probably only get you results if you're normally completely sedentary. If you're not majorly obese you'd have to make at least minor changes to your diet.

Well, yeah, any form of exercise is helped by having a better diet.
