So about a week ago a red dot appeared on my lip. I figured it was a pimple or something (its very close to where the lip meets regular skin). I hadn't shaved that area in awhile and shaved that day, so my roommate suggested an ingrown hair.

Later, someone said it could be a cold sore. I don't remember if I ever had one before, don't feel sick, and it didn't start out as a small collection of sores that burst. I just woke up one day and it was there. It did hurt at a time, but sort of the way a big zit under the skin hurts.

Do I have a cold sore or just some sort of inflammation? I treated it like a pimple for awhile, with anti-pimple cream, it got dry and cracked and some skin peeled off today. I switched to treating it with Abreva. That shit is expensive. Should I treat it like one or the other or just let it go?

Pic kind of related. Its a cold sore and my mark looks somewhat like that, but not exactly.

it's possible you have herpes, and many people can be asymptomatic (meaning no symptoms) and not know until already having passed it.

It's possible it's a really bad black head or a ingrown hair. Best way to be sure is to go get a herpes test done. You'd wanna know, amirite?

Yeah but I'm one of those fags that hates the doctor. =(

Does herpes always present with multiple blisters first?

I should go get tested just to be on the safe side, but getting time off from work is a pain, plus as mentioned I'm a pussy.

I've been getting coldsores all my life. The only symptom is itching/feeling of doom in the general area of my mouth, then a bump that eventually ends up looking like OP's picture.
My suggestion is, get some Aciclovir (usually sold under names like Zovirax and Herpex), which'll kill the virus and tea tree oil to dry the bitch out. When it gets to the stage where it bleeds if you try to rip any of it off, stop touching it and just let it heal. After years of experimentation with various treatments, this works best.
I had no fucking friends when I was 4-5 because of this shit. I could have had decent fucking social skills.

I'm using Abreva right now, but am not sure its even a cold sore. There were no other symptoms, just one day, a red bump that hurt if pressed.

=(

How long do cold sores generally last?

Abreva is fine, but any sort of cream generally keeps the coldsore [if it is one] too wet means you could get a vaguely pus-ridden layer over the top of it, which is hugely unattractive.
Mine don't present with any symptoms either; I can just tell when they're coming because it has its own unique sensation that makes me want to die. When this happens, your best bet is to apply an icepack before it can progress.

Mine usually last about 2 weeks before any trace of them stop being visible.

Take a bunch of Lysene. If it goes away very quickly after taking the Lysene, it might be a herp.

I used to get one about once or twice a year, same exact spot. Usually when I was stressed or had something important to go to. Now I take Lysine every day and haven't had one since.
