I have a weight bench, but it has no stand for a barbell

So before I benchpress I have to lift the barbell from the ground, hoist it to my chest in the proper position, then lay down on the bench in that pose to press.

Is this safe/good/stupid?

not safe, unless you're benching all of like... 75 lbs.

I'm benching 100.. just bought the set, that's all it came with

Once upon a time that was how EVERYONE bench pressed. Make sure you have a spotter, though. The bench press is one of the only lifts that can kill a healthy person.

two options.

Get a stand, power rack or gun rack.
Get two dumbbells.

If you lift to failure and the bar rolls onto your neck you have two choices: die or pitch the bar to the side.

PROTIP: You can make spotter bars out of two sawhorses.

your training those targeted muscles, for that, that has to be fucking heavy. Like your weight, eventually. Can you lift yourself 10x3?

And you never heard us complain!

Get an adjustable height power rack, since you'll need one for squats anyway, and it can double for helping you not kill yourself while benching.
