Chins are the only body weight exersise that will be even mildly effective, but bodyweight exersises suck for building. They are for mild conditioning only.

both chins and dips are extremely effective exercises. most people just do shitty barely half range of motion versions that acheive nothing at all. not to mention planches and other fuck yeah exercises. if you can actually do high-rep, perfect technique chins and dips you can always add resistance.
