i just want to vent about something. maybe some of you share my plight and can offer advice/commiserate.

my digestive system is completely fucked. i don't know when it happened - either when i lived abroad or when i came to college. that doesn't even matter anymore. the point is, no matter what i eat, no matter how much i exercise or how many rolaids i chew, the second food hits my stomach i bloat up like a balloon. and i'm not talking ate-too-much-indian-food bloat. i'm talking 6 months pregnant distention after eating half a sandwich.

it's disgusting. i eat healthy. i don't eat too much meat, i avoid refined foods as much as i can, i get regular exercise. but it doesn't even matter, because that single stalk of celery or apple i eat will turn me into a fucking cow for the next five hours. i get gas, my stomach rumbles, and i shit in all colors of the rainbow.

i wouldn't mind all the bodily discomforts - the pain, the fatigue, the constant shitting and farting - if it weren't for the motherfucking bloating and distention. i look. so. fat. all. the. time.

right now i'm going through a bad spell - i wake up after not eating for 14 hours, and i look like i just grazed on three big macs. i want to kill myself.

Causes

* Air swallowing (a nervous habit)
* Constipation
* Excess gas in the bowel
* Irritable bowel syndrome
* Lactose intolerance and other food intolerances
* Overeating
* Partial bowel obstruction
* Small bowel bacterial overgrowth

yeah, i have. IBS is basically chronic. i can function in society, so it isn't completely crippling. it just affects my appearance in that no matter what, i will always look 10-20lbs fatter than i am because i'm all distended and bloaty. it's shitty. the doctor prescribed a (VERY HEAVY) regimen of medicines that helped, but at the dose she wanted me to be on, i would have to refill the entire bottle once every 8 days. i can't afford that shit.

I'm an air swallower. I started doing it to piss off my co-workers, because I would have wicked gas afterwards, but now I can't help myself sometimes, I do it unconsciously. Idk anyways, one thing that helps get rid of gas is to do jack knife sit-ups, it massages the bowels pretty good and the gas is usually forced out of your ass quicker.

One thing about IBS is that some people have quit eating processed and refined foods, that seems to help ease down their symptoms.

i used to get crazy bloating from yeast and bacterial overgrowth.

experiment with different probiotics.. take large amounts of it.. some work much better than others.. i've tried about a dozen different ones, and stick to 2 or 3... none of them are cheap unfortunately

cut out things different things for at least a week at a time and see if things improve.. eg all starches.. gluten/casein/soy.. all sulfur vegetables, etc.. you just don't know until you try unless you have money and can try sIgA testing etc.


another possibility is parasites.. try humaworm.com, good reviews.

Could be Crohn's disease or colitis ulcerosa.
Avoid everything that contains acid, like oranges, lemons, apples, etc.
Change your diet and avoid sugar.
