lots of cardio while taking in a lot of protein without very much lifting - what happens?

You always want some protein to promote any muscle gains your body may try to achieve, but for pure cardio, you'll want more fat and carbs.

If all you do is cardio, you still want to take in a fair amount of protein so your existing muscles get their nutrients.
