OKayy. So I'm looking to get ripped. Not jacked but RRIIIPPPPEDD! I've been told to do mad calisthenics instead of actually lifting weights. What is /fit/'s opinion?

lift wieghts. lots of reps. but focus more on doing the actual lifting properly. that tones muscle and builds strength, not size.

Ripped? Like, seeing all your muscles fibers? You need to do isolation hypertrophy exercises. 5 different exercises for your shoulders, at the minimum.

Or you mean.. be like Bruce Lee? Bruce Lee did massive amount of cardio combined with heavy weightlifting.

as for OP, i assume by RIPPED you mean visible muscles rather than large muscles. in order to make muscles visible, you generally need a low body fat percent. As mentioned, you can lower body fat through cardio (like HIIT) and increasing metabolism (eat more meals, exercise more often, etc.)

1-6 Reps = Strength, Average Sized Muscles
8-12 Reps = Hypertrophy, Larger Sized Muscles
13+ Reps = Endurance, Smaller Sized Muscles

Why would lifting a small amount of weight make you stronger? Are you fucking retarded?

1-6 Reps, 4-5 Sets: Myofibrillar hypertrophy (gain number and size of muscle). Strength and definition.
6-10 Reps, 3-4 Sets: Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (increase in sarcoplasmic fluid in muscles). Size and some strength.
12+ Reps: lulzathletes. Muscular endurance.

The point is, you can't get "RIPPED" unless you actually have muscle underneath. If you're already muscular, go ahead and run your ass off until you get under 8% body fat. You may want to lift once in a while anyways, just so you don't effectively lose all your muscle running on the treadmill every day.
