Are push-ups good for strength gain? I can do about 15 on my first set. I'm thinking to replace barbell with push-ups, since it sounds more like a natural exercise.

Is 15 reps too much? should i place plates on my back?

If you're not going for hypertrophy, it sounds fine.

you're right, it's kind of an upside down bench press.

Push ups are really shitty for strength gain. They aren't as focused as benching, and form for benching is a hell of a lot easier than keeping form for push-ups. Benching is just better overall.

Good for other things, like muscular endurance (Which is shit for powerlifting), and some core strentgh, but that' about it.
