I'm looking for a workout to drop some fat and tone up muscles, and I'm considering doing the Beginning Strength 5x5, but free weights are still a bit intimidating as I am not overly experienced at the gym.

Any advice?

since when is trying something new never intimidating? just go to the gym and ask somebody (maybe staff) to help you out. Or you can just google for proper form and technique. Also invest in some protein powder.
