Dearest /fit/

I'm an overweight female (5'6 and 180lbs) and I really want to lose weight, probably get down to about 150-160. Can /fit/ suggest any exercises that will burn fat very quickly? It must be something I can do inside though, since it's -15c outside and will be for a while.

I was thinking about running up and down the stairs. Would this burn fat fast?

I'm sorry, but 150-160lbs at 5'6 is still grossly overweight. You may come in with an argument "I'm large framed", and that simply isn't true. You could easily be 130 or less.

truth. Try this out:

1. Jump at moderate pace for 50 reps (jump the rope 50 times)
2. Rest 45 seconds
3. Moderate pace for 100 reps
4. Rest 30 seconds
5. All-out pace for 50 reps
6. Rest 60-90 seconds
7. Repeat 3 times
8. Do this 3-6 times a week, first thing in the morning on an empty stomach if possible
9. ?????
10. PROFIT!!!

It's hardly grossly, but it's a good realistic goal to hit for now then she can lose more once she succeeds.

what about for males? i'm 5'11 or so. i'm at 150 and i'm still pudgy, but i don't really think it is easily detectable beneath clothing.

on another note i'm pretty sure you can be large framed, btw. not sure if it has that much of a bearing on your weight, but i'm sure it would. i've seen some guys with chests that are almost concave, and i don't think i could ever get my chest anywhere near that. it seems to pretty much stick out a few inches past my shoulders no matter what.

150 at 5'6" isn't grossly overweight. I'm OP's height, and when I was 130 I was a fucking stick. Only around 145 do I start to look normal.

It may have something to do with having really dense breast tissue and constantly lactating, I dunno. Also, dense bones.

Weight loss exercise is all about reaching your target heart rate and staying there for at least 30 minutes.

Do this calculation: (230 - your age) * 0.7
Divide that by 6
During any exercise you do, check your pulse for 10 seconds; if the pulse is greater than that number, you can let up a little if you are exhausted. If it is LESS than that number, increase activity level.

As for "the best" exercise, it is anything that you can keep doing. Seriously, try anything and even do a little bit of everything to keep yourself interested.

you're skinny fat

to OP
-15°C does not prevent you from going outside
start by going out for a fast walk (up hills, if there are any near you) every day
