Hey /fit/

I have recently started lifting weights at home to increase my overall upper body strength and mass. I am doing a combination of slow lifts some sessions and fast lifts other sessions. I have a routine worked out of exercises I have found from various sources to improve the areas I want to work on. I have also taken up cycling on the rest days to improve my cardio and lower body speed/strength. I hit it hard and fast, no leasuirely ride, really push it up hills.

Anyway, I'm looking for some advice on things to eat before and after my weight lifting sessions. I read somewhere that orange juice and carbs from foods like pasta is a good choice as a before workout meal. Followed by protein foods or energy bars/drinks. Got any advice or opinions for me?

I'm of average height and quite slim/light (hence the mass building part of my routine). Oh yeah, I usually go to fail on all exercises. Apart from the cycling where I time myself on a circuit I have made up, aiming to get quicker and quicker.

Weight - 67.31KG
Height - 182cm

182 cm is a lot more than average height.

Carbs before, protein after.
Before: banana, noodles, Oatmeal, whatever
After: Whey shake, Protein bar (symatrix rocks), steak, tuna, chicken.

Oh and some carbs after too, that prevents katabolism.

OP here:

Trevor, I've always assumed 6ft was pretty average for someone of my generation and age (22). Most of my friends people I meet are of my height if not taller in most cases. Perhaps I just hang around with lots of tall people. =P

What time would be optimal for consuming food after the work out? Immediately after warm down? Or an hour or so later?

protein shake in the first half hour to hour. More if you feel like it.

183 cm is not average height unless you live in Sweden/Norway/Germany... somewhere around there.
In the US, I'm sure that most men are 5'5" to 5'10".
Depends. If you exercise for more than an hour, drink it throughout your workout.

If not, drink it within the next hour, but after a half hour.
