I'm balding too, so I've done a lot of research into this. Rogaine works only on the crown of your head, but as soon as you stop using it you'll start losing your hair again. Propecia is a pill you can take that'll regrow your hair all over your head, but it costs too much money. Hair transplantation is VERY expensive, like $1 a hair follicle, and most surgeries run from 2000 to 7000 hairs being implanted. Now this will last only 6 months before you need to go back in for a 'touch-up', which means another 3000-5000 hairs being implanted. And the surgical clinics will lock you into contracts that make you buy Rogaine and Propecia from them, where they jack up the price. There is a shampoo out there that I've used, it's called Super Hair Energizer. It's like $25 just for the shampoo, but it instructs you to use just a little, so I've had the bottle I'm using now for about 8 months now. I think it works pretty good, before my hair was following out in clumps and it slowed down the loss considerably. It's been 2 years now since I started using S.H.E., but my hair is receding too bad now, so I just gave up and cut it real close.
What you need to do is go into a hair salon and ask the stylists what's the coolest hair-do they can do for you. Most likely if the receding is bad they'll tell you to shave it all off or get something like Matt Lauer has. I'll tell you what, trying to hide your balding hair is the WORST thing you can do. People notice it more, its just better to say fuck it and man up, accept your condition. You can't do anything about it, so learn to live with it. Change the things that you have control of in your life, like your health and wardrobe. Just because you might be 'ugly', doesn't mean you can't look good.
Pic related, I have a Matt Lauer hair cut, plus a better physique. Watch him on TV and see how bad his thinning is, yet he still looks good.
