So basically I've been eating a little too much fast food and have been eating way too late at night, and I've been gaining a little weight around the midsection (i.e. stomach, waist, hips, and a little bit of the thighs/ass). I'm a 20-yr-old male, I'm 6'2-3", and I weigh...wow, just weight myself, 250 lbs. Heaviest I've ever weighed in my life.
So, I'd like to be around 200 or 210. Maybe even lighter.
What does /fit/ recommend for me? I'm stopping all fast foods, and late-night eating, obviously. However, I would like to get an exercise program going that I can do at home/near home (i.e. no big production, no extravegantness. Just get it done, wham bam thank you mam.)
So, I guess the main question is this: Do I have to run/do something cardiovascular (is that the right word to use here for non-weight training exercise?) to lose weight, or would doing crunches and push-ups all the time work instead? I mean, I'll run if that's the only way to get the fat off. But if I have to do cardio, are there other types of cardio as opposed to running? I've heard swimming may be an option.
Also, I've taken the BMI test online
(http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmicalc.htm)
for what I want to be at (6'2-3", 200 lbs), and that turns out to lie just on the border of "Normal" and "Overweight". Is this true, or is online BMI a pot of crack (like I've heard elswewhere) since it isn't personal and generalizes everything?

tl'dr:
-Am: 250 lbs, 6'2-3", 20yr old male.
-Want to be: ~200lbs
-Cardio needed to lose fat?
-If so, different types of cardio?
-If not, constant pushups/crunches work?
-My Wanted "Online" BMI: 200lbs, 6'3".

BMI isn't a pot of crack, but it has very limited uses and not supposed to be used for what you're trying to use it for. Body composition is more important than weight. Doing cardio or HIIT will help you drop some body fat, but do not think you're going to experience any kind of huge, quick transformation.

If you really want to see really dramatic results, buy yourself a barbell. Do a beginner program (SS or 5x5, or something similar). You won't get huge, it will help you change your body composition much easier than cardio alone, and you'll look much better when you've cut down your fat %. Combined with HIIT or endurance training, it will be a breeze.

I'm not going to read your whole post but if you're basing your happiness with your fitness on BMI you really need to take a good, long look at yourself and what you really want.
