To answer your question, Yes It is pretty good excercise, if you play a SHIT LOAD.
I lost about 6-8 pounds playing ddr in my freshman year of Highschool, but that was when It was the golden years of its popularity, and every day I came home and played for 2 hours atleast.
If you don't love the game, and I mean love it. Then You will be better off doing a normal cardio routine. In fact, you should do both because playing that game will only get you so far.
but 6 pounds isn't small potatoes to some people. So yeah give it a try.
