hey /fit/

i am a 22 year old female who loves to work out. right now i am working out anywhere between 3-4 hours a day, 6 days a week. i do this to help maintain my depression and anxiety. and to be honest, its just becoming an obsession at this point. besides the obvious, malnutrition, are there any serious complications that can arise from working out so much? as far as my muscles/tissues go?

assuming you eat enough malnutrition ain't a problem
since your a girl you probably don't

how do you have so much time

shit i don't even train that much a week and i'm pretty much blasted after 3 consecutive days. i usually train between 6-15 hours a week. 8 being the average, 15 hours only if i do a long 3-4 hour run on the weekend

Obsessive working out like that can is another part of eating disorders: If you're going 3-4 hours a day, your body will eventually simply not be able to take in enough calories, no matter how much you eat...

You can be in a workout, and start wondering when you can go do your running, or if your running, how long its going to be before you can get to the gym.

but as your body starts to not get enough food (because of the obscene amount of exercise), it'll start breaking things down, first off being the muscles, which will make your workouts harder, and harder, until you collapse and are put int he hospital.

Weight and height? What exercises?

I do the same. 3 hours everyday. I'm a female as well. I'm 5'3 and 120lbs. I eat pretty much healthy foods throughout the day and eat often. My arms hurt like hell now right now though. Enough that I cringe to bring them up to wash my hair or even lift myself out of bed =/ I figured I should take a break today... should I? (Exercises I do are an hour on the weight machines, 90 minutes elliptical, rest spent on the treadmill)

You best be working out in the kitchen!

Yes if you over worn your muscles you'll get stretch marks and weird red soars... It happens to the Chinese gymnasts who have no life but to work out and climb poles.

You need to allow your muscles to heal so assign some rest days

How many rest days should you have in a week?

It's counterproductive to work out much more than a hour per day; you're tearing up your heart w/that.
Good weightlifitng should take about an hour per day 3 days a week, alternated with HIIT cardio the other 3 days of the week (about 10 minutes per day) and that's it. Chill on the 7th.

That just seems like so little time to me. If I only went for an hour afterward I'd feel like I accomplished little

If you like overly long workouts, you'll just LOVE the tabata method!

"That just seems like so little time to me. If I only went for an hour afterward I'd feel like I accomplished little"

If you're lifting hard, you won't have the energy to go any longer. The point is to break down the muscle fibers, feed them protein, and then let them rest 24 hrs so they can grow back stronger.

What you seem to be talking about is irrational and more of a mental disorder.

Will any of you two be my girlfriend? I want a girl like that. We would work out together, eat together... I don't know any girl who likes to work out that much. Actually i don't know any girl who likes to work out at all.
