Sit-ups are for people who want to isolate their hip muscles. If you're an athlete training for power, especially for twisting and jumping and whatnot, sit-ups are great.

If you're looking to get your six-packs, crunches are the way to start.

Wimps, I hang upside down on my pull bar and do situps. I feel I get more of an exercise that way. If I don't wear a weighted vest I don't really get tired though.
