www.crossfit.com

It's kind of a fitness movement. A lot better than the shit that 90% of people who "exercise" do, but I wouldn't consider it really an optimal routine, or even a great supplement to any other routine.

It'll build you a big amount of endurance.

Or kill you.

Try it if you're already fit enough to do, say, 5km in a half hour or so.

It's a cult like fitness program. Just get a personal trainer instead.

worse idea

was looking more for opinions than explanations i suppose. It does seem very cult-like to me, though. It also seems like all the lifting videos on youtube regarding it encourage poor form.

no just with the pullups

cross fitters do kipping pullups where they swing their legs, people whine that its cheating. but you do kipping pullups in sets of like 25 - 50 so it's really not any easier, make it a full body movement to increase your heartrate and cardio aspect of it.

crossfit is great for conditioning and endurance, not so great for bulking and maximal strength

it does not encourage poor form, form is an extremely important part of it
Ive been doing crossfit for 5 weeks now and I frigging adore it. Ive had noticeable difference in my strength, endurance, and definition. I highly recommend it, however if your just starting, you definitely need to scale the workouts and make sure you have great form...

Um, no, a personal trainer is better than some random cult fitness group.

I remember the first day I did weights instead of cardio when I had one.

It took three days before I was back to normal. A good personal trainer (especially if she's hot, has a hard little body, and is married) is excellent, will beat the living shit out of you and make you come back for more.

I say married because you get frustrated and work harder, even though chances are you'd never get her anyway.

i love cross fit.. its an amazing workout plan.. almost every US military special operation force trains it.. it builds endurance, strength and speed.. look at the fran
21 power cleans (145 lbs)
21 pull ups
15 pwr cleans
15 pull ups
9 pwr cleans
9 pull ups
for time.. i can knock this out in about 8 minutes belive me its a pretty nasty workout... idk id rather be able to bench my body weight 30 times rather than bench 2x my body wieght twice...

fran is 95# thrusters (front squat into push press) not power cleans. elizabeth is #135 full cleans and ring dips with the same rep scheme, and is a much harder way to spend 5 minutes...

overpriced personal trainer whose only real goal is to make money off you... or free CF website, free video critique of form (forums), free exercise demos, etc etc. + and couple hundred bucks invested in all the equipment you'll ever need.

i'm also stronger, faster, and a better rounded athlete than you bb'ers, /troll

yar ur right it is thrusters.. are u doin 21-15-9?? cause 5 mins is a pretty crazy fran time..>>238407

i did fran with chest to bar pullups a couple weeks ago and got 7:30. in april as rx'ed (normal pullups) i did 4:50, today i'd probably get right around or hopefully below 4.

elizabeth with powercleans off the floor in 5:15. took me a long time to truly recover from that when i finished. if i was catching the cleans in a front squat (rx'd) it would have been worse, and taken a lot longer.

once again, stronger/faster/more well rounded than bb'ers.

Worth a visit, I don't agree with their emphasis on handstand push-ups though.

Here's Rippetoe's take on Crossfit
http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/Supplemental_Materials#Can_I_combine_Crossfit_with_Starting_S
trength.3F

"Can I combine Crossfit with Starting Strength?

Mark Rippetoe:

It depends on where you perceive that your training should be focused. If you're not strong enough to effectively do the WODs, it makes sense to focus on SS for a while to get better at force production and then go back to Crossfit. If your strength is good now and your primary interest is in CF GPP conditioning, strength work occurs often enough in the WOD that you can just do it like that. Assuming you mean that you need to concentrate on strength for a while, I'd start with straight SS programming, and then add one metcon workout after 3-4 weeks and see how your strength work responds. Probably 2 metcon/3 SS workouts/week is all you can tolerate. I like 'Cindy' for starters. Any of the benchmark "girl" workouts are very good. They are short, intense, and useful."
