This one is short and simple /fit/

While cycling I often get a sharp pain in the nerves of my index fingers. I think its because I'm putting too much of my weight on the handlebars because as soon as I take my hands off, the pain fades.

Are my hands fucked or am I just putting too much weight on my hands?

Also, the pain seems to go from the major knuckle (where it is the most painful) the the first minor knuckle, beyond that there isnt much pain.

I CAN RIDE MY BIKE WITH NO HANDLEBARS, NO HANDLEBARS, NO HANDLEBARS

that sucks, it shouldn't be solely in the index finger. I cycle a lot too and at first i had pains in the legs (duh..) and at the part of my hands where the palm meets the middlefinger and thumb. Try stretching your fingers before cycling.

Palm stretches and/or higher handlebars seem to be in order. You shouldn't have any considerable discomfort cycling a distance shorter than 30-ish miles on decent hills.

You're only meant to have a light grip on the bars.

Try riding without any hands on the bars, if you can't do it then it means you put too much weight on the bars.
