So I pretty much never work out and I just decided to do some push ups. Should I be worried that everytime I bend my left elbow going down it makes a popping noise? What is going on here?

Since you don't have much muscle there to begin with, your arms aren't used to doing that much exercise. Even if you are smaller, you still don't have the muscle to support yourself.

Put your feet on a bench or a chair and do push-ups from there. Or do them on an incline leaning on a wall. You need to build up before you can do any normal push-ups.

This way you'll be able to do more and your arms won't pop as much.

Good luck.

true that...your joints are adjusting. do them lightly. don't even go for resistance just yet..just do like 20 at a time and get used to supporting your body...do them against the wall. you can't go from being totaly inactive to pushing muscles hard

This makes pushups harder, you dope.

20 is far too much to start out at for someone who experiences this with only 1 or 2.

sorry, should have been more specific with what i meant. do pushups against a wall, don't even do it hard enough to create resistance. just do about 20 at a time to get used to the motion.

Silly anon, it just uses your shoulder muscles, too.
i suggest dumbbells, and maybe you should google how to do proper pushups.

OP here. thanks for the info.

i tried it with my feet on a couch and it seems pretty much the same.

up against the wall is ok but it feels like i am not doing anything.

although at first i was like wat at the wall pushup, but then i realized:
put your feet farther away from the wall.

try doing them with your feet on the ground and pushing from the stairs. the decline will make it easier

I experience the same thing as OP; my left elbow pops. actually wait, OP's pops bending down. mine pops as I am coming up.

I have recently started doing push ups as well, however I'm able to do more than forty. the popping occurs on the first one and continues, it isn't as though it happens later and later as i improve at doing pushups.

You need to build up some lubrication in your joints, don't go straight from doing nothing to pushups, I expereinced the same thing, then I started running, throughing punches for a couple minutes before pushups, joints move a lot during that time, and then when I do pushups, it's all smooth, no cracking, Try to get them moving around for at least 10-15 minutes before pushups
