hai /fit/

can you do cardio and weightlifting at the same day without being detrimental to each other? (weight loss VS muscle gain)

I plan on doing weights in the morning and running and the afternoon to speed up looking good this summer
>> Loser
Haha, I was wondering the same.
>> Anonymous
You can.
I do it.
Run before and after your training session.
Don't seperate both things.
Do it in one session.
You won't regret it.
>> Anonymous
>>134305

More or less. Do a light 10 minutes to warm up before your weight training. The weight training will burn your energy stores so that your cardio will have an easier time getting to your fat stores.

Same day but in separate sessions is fine as well, though not as beneficial as right after weight training. I for one do it in separate sessions because I simply cannot muster the juice to do cardio right after my workouts.

>>134305
wouldn't that mess up being in a catabolic or anabolic state?
>> Anonymous
Never combine weight training and cardio, You are doing both for 2 different reasons and they are not compatable...It is pathetic when I see people do this in the gym. Do them on different days or seperate them by 8 hours. If you don't you are wasting time
>> Anonymous
>>134317
>>134321
phew okay i thuoght i was the only one using this reasoning
>> Anonymous
>>134321
So, If my goal was to burn off fat, but keep the muscle i have in the process, weight training + cardio wouldnt work? So if i did 5-10 minute warmup, heavy lifting for 45 minutes, then HIIT training for like 15-20 minutes right after, would that just eat up my muscle i have? I probably wouldnt be eating until after an hour after i did that. Should i just keep the HIIT and weight training seperate?
>> Anonymous
>>134321

Elaborate on it please. I see no reason why i cant do a bit of bench pressing for a warm up while im trying to lose fat.
>> Anonymous
>>134342

An extreme what to that.

bump for conclusive answer
>> Anonymous
You want a fucking answer? No, you don't fucking do cardio after you lift. Maybe you should lurk the fuck moar and learn to understand how your body's energy stores work. Re-fucking-gardless, if you want to do cardio and lifting in the same day, separate them with a good several hours. If anyone tells you otherwise, accept they're an idiot and move the fuck on.

Fuck, guys, this isn't difficult.
>> Loser
>>134388
What about cardio before lifting? Is there a difference or refuckinggardless just separate the two with a few hours?
>> Anonymous
>>134388

Separate the fucking two. I reiterate, learn how your fucking energy stores work.

Then teach us. You are no different from a christian, says a statement, no evidence or explanation.

Ok, my plan is:

Monday:
Walk 30-45 minutes.

Tuesday:
Walk 30-45 minutes.
2 sets of 20 squats with 25 lb. dumbbells
2 sets of 25 25 lb. dumbbell curls.

Wednesday:
Walk 30-45 minutes.

Thursday:
Walk 30-45 minutes.
2 sets of 20 squats with 25 lb. dumbbells
2 sets of 25 25 lb. dumbbell curls.

Friday:
Walk 30-45 minutes.

Saturday:
Walk 30-45 minutes.
2 sets of 20 squats with 25 lb. dumbbells
2 sets of 25 25 lb. dumbbell curls.

Sunday:
Walk 30-45 minutes.

Nothing wrong with this right?
>> Anonymous
>>134388
All of the trainers at my gym have always told me to do cardio after I do my sets for the maximum benefit. Not who you were replying to, but it has always seemed to work for me.
>> Anonymous
so weightlifting around 8 am

and cardio-ing around 6 pm is okay?
>> Anonymous
>>134432
How come you can do 20 squats with 25 lb. dumbbells but in terms of cardio, you only do 30-45 minutes walking?
>> Anonymous
>>134432
jesus, get a real weight lifting routine.

how about you get some real fucking weights. Holy shit, I didn't list that routine for you to do with 25 pound dumbbells.
>> sage
Yeah I would do it on separate days. Or have a large period of time between them. It's fine to combine it with weightlifting if you take it into account when calcuating your daily caloric needs.
>> Margaret
I would switch the weights and the running schedule. Run in the morning; it will give your metabolism an extra boost for the day, then do weights later to really get your metabolism going.

Cardio isn't just for weight loss dick cunt. Do you know what endurance is?? do you?

Doing cardio and weights on the same day isn't a problem unless you're working the same muscles in both sessions. You need to rest for 24 hours between weightlifting sessions to allow the muscles to heal - so make sure that you're working different groups. Try working on your arms in the weight room before you run - then the next day, do squats and leg exercises in the weight room and get your cardio done through rowing.
>> Anonymous
Not OP, but again, I must pose the question: Why no cardio and then weights?

I'm looking to lose weight, but also get some muscle (not bulk up, and I'm trying to avoid using the word "tone" incorrectly). Say I do my cardio, which burns a few calories, and then do my weight training. What, exactly, with weight training, stops the magic calorie-burning process that cardio gets rolling?
>> Anonymous
>>134782

Forgot to add, I've been doing cardio daily for a while now, and added weights every other day to my routine. Am I doin it rong lol?
>> Anonymous
>>134782
You might not want to run before heavy lifting because the cardio depletes a lot of your body's energy that is needed to lift heavy things. If you were just going to do some light curlz or something it probably wouldn't hurt, but if you want to deadlift, squat, etc....you should do it first and then if you have energy leftover put it into cardio.

I don't know if I'm doing endurance training or not, but they're my first set of dumbbells and my mom just got me whatever she thought would be easy since I'm a beginner.

At first, I was struggling to just hold them up. Here I am a month later curling them like it's nothing.
>> Loser
>>135293
No seriously though. All I do is squatz and curls. I used to do those calf raise exercises. They made my calves hard and all, but I'm aiming for slimmer calves; not huge rock solid calves.

Is this correct???

When you weight train (anaerobic activity), the body's preferred energy source that enables you to train hard and be and stay strong for the workout is--you guessed it--carbohydrate. So, if you train before you do cardio, the glycogen necessary for productive workouts is both available and used. As you train the glycogen is used for energy and depleted. Ah! Depleted glycogen. Exactly where you want to be when you start cardio (aerobic activity) so that you can BURN FAT!
>> Anonymous
>>135942

You'll be draining the proteins from the muscles that are holding them intact. In other words, all that you just did for weightlifting will be almost for naught.
>> Anonymous
>>135942

That was my assumption and what i used as a basis for a workout each day, however i have doubts since that fag came along giving statements without any form of evidence, think he was a christian also.

Anyone able to confirm/deny?

>>135947

More importantly, all those awesome hormones you just let out during lifting will be WASTED.

I'm fit and i lift weights then do cardio to work out my heart. I used to swim alot in high school and havent swam as much since then. because of swimming i got low blood pressure because of how big my heart got, muscular. but since i havent been swimming i'm starting to feel the feects of low blood pressure because my heart needs to wrok hearder then it used to but its used to what it used to pump at. I'm still rail thin. So i'll bike to the point where i burn 800-1000 calories in an hour. or i'll swim.

so tl;dr i used cardio to train my heart and lungs not to lose fat.

so you faggots are telling me working out then doing cardio is a bad thing? i've been doing it for years. you work out break muscle then do cardio and break some more muscle depending on the areas you worked out and how intense you do cardio. While burning large amounts of calories. And thats bad?
>> Anonymous
>>135964

Now, just imagine if you did it correctly.

Kinda explains it. When glycogen is running low after 20 mins of exercise, it starts burning fat as an energy source. You need carbohydrates to break down into the chemical to break fats, so i slightly contradict myself saying restrict carbs.
