I run a lot (15-20 miles a week) in addition to five days of weight lifting but I take it very informally. Aside from some cheapish running shoes, I usually just put on gym shorts and a wifebeater and I'm good to go.
Usually I go 3-4 miles at a time, or double that if I feel lazy. As for when and where, it doesn't matter to me; depends on the day, the weather, my schedule, and my mood. I'll run anytime from 6am in the morning to 4am cause I'm bored. Outdoor running is the easiest because you don't have to usually worry about clogged tracks or eyeing a treadmill track, and you can just let yourself zone out and huff along. But a good track or treadmill are great in a pinch.
This board preaches HIIT, and they should, because it's a wonderful program, but I can't get my cardio in that way. I'd rather just do something that's meditative for me and enjoy it, than hating what I'm doing.
