Hey /fit/

Recently I took up a position as a teacher's aid at my local high school. This comes with the perk of using the school gym (its huge). Today was my first day going to it. Yesterday while asking around on bodybuilders.com someone told me to do a 5*5 routine 3 days a week.

I'd like to know if its bullshit or not-

here was today's schedule

warm up
squats
farmers walk
lunges
abdomical exercises

other 2 days were modified for deadlifts and bench press.

5 sets of 5 reps. it's for strength. if you're expecting to get huge, don't do this. if you want to be a strong mother fucker (you'll still get larger), then do this.

if you also want power, throw in some o-lifts.

>since its 5*5, do I just do each exercise 5 times and do 5 reps of each?

You do 5 sets of 5 repetitions of an exercise. That means you do 5 deadlifts, take a rest, do 5 more, rest, 5 more, rest, 5 more, rest, 5 more and so on.

Also; 3 day split is pretty decent, so I'd say you're good. You can check

or something to see if you're hitting all your muscles, or for some tips to round up your schedule.

oh really? I did 5 squats, 5 lunges, 100ft farmers walk, and 10 resistance crunches, then repeated the cycle over 5 times. Should I do the 5 sets of 5 squats all in a row THEN move to the next exercise?

Meh, I don't really know if there is like any scientific evidence for what is the better way to do it. I believe it is advisable to do 5 sets of 1 or 2 exercises, then move on to the next. Probably has something to do with keeping the recovery time for your muscles short enough.

I believe I read somewhere that you should wait 30 secs-1 min max between your sets of the same exercise for maximum gains. So if you would do your entire 'cycle' first you would of course go over that.
But then again, if the other exercises still hit the same muscles somewhat it might not be that big of a problem.

what, if you're doing 5x5, you better not wait only one fucking minute between sets. and if you are, and you're still able to do all 5, stop being such a pussy and lift some more fucking weight.

2-3 minutes between sets for 5x5. for beginners, it can even be as high as 4-5.
