I bet you get this alot:

Every other day I wash it with 5% benzoyl peroxide.

Pic related. its mine

The way I got rid of acne.
I exercised alot, sweat the oil off my face.
And I washed my face twice in the morning, and twice at night with a soap bar (I think it was Dove).
I also ate healthier. Now my acne scars are also pretty much gone. :)

Go out in the sun more. Also, after washing out your face, do put some moisturiser or at least baby oil on it, because leaving the skin raw only irritates it.
>> Anonymous
Yeah get some sun, but not too much. Some sensitive skin might scar.
Also don't worry too much about your acne, it'll end sooner or later. As long as it isn't too serious, you won't get pits in your face later.

I know you've probably heard and tried a billion oldwivestales remedies but this one seems legit (I've been just using honey and it seems to be having a noticeable effect):

Ahahahaha, "honey kills yeast". Obviously the person has never heard of mead.

Also, that really is a misleading article - the studies on the medical effects of honey are actually studies made on MediHoney(TM) which is a brand name for manuka honey - honey collected by bees from flowers of the manuka tree, which is rather similar to tea tree (melaluca) in that it produces antibacterial chemicals as part of its defence mechanism.
Your average bee vomit will NOT do what the article claims. In fact, you can probably slather your face with golden syrup, maple syrup, and what have you and "feel" the same effects.

I also love the coconut oil versus mineral oil argument the reporter makes. Of course subjects would find the smell of coconut oil preferable to the odourless mineral oil, and report more positive results. Therre's no way to perform a double-blind trial: you can't mask the smell of coconut oil. The "what woould you rather, something from coconuts or something from the big bad oil industry?" is just laughable.

And damnit, if oatmeal baths were so great for skin breakouts and eczema, you'd probably see more dermatologists recommend it compared to say, pinetarsol.

Acne is, and always will be primarily caused by hormones. There is absolutely no reason why a combination of honey, baking soda, oatmeal and coconut oil will ever change your hormone levels.

There's Benzoylperoxide available as a powder. Get that, it stays on your skin for some hours and has great effect.
Also: Wash with a skin sensitive cream with ph 5.5.
Nothing aggressive!
>> C.C. Pizzabutt !!L/Og2JavDJH
I use that St. Ives stuff and it works quite well. Also Queen Helene masks burn like shit, but are awesome for keeping your face clear.

Drink atleast 24oz of water daily as well.

Oh, I've also heard the Neutrogena bar soap is amazing. confirm/deny?

I suffered from terrible acne for some time.

Until I tried to start a better diet. I cut out anything with lots of sugar, mainly pop, and I saw a massive improvement in my acne. Its almost to the point of the scars being completely invisible now.

The other thing is that some days I wouldn't be as strict and have a pop or two. Then the next day I'd have a new pimple or whatnot.

Oh, and I also tried to get some sun in.

Accutane.
>> Anonymous
how the fuck do you get this stuff off your back/chest and other areas you wish not to discus?

I shower twice a day. Why is there so much?
>> Anonymous
Stop buying gimmicks and eat/sleep better. Almost all bad cases of acne could be prevented by just that.
>> Anonymous
>>73069
Showering twice a day is part of your problem, especially if you're not mosturizing after each shower. You're drying out your skin and causing it to produce a ton of oils. Shower once a day.
>> Moo !XBOXgikTFw
Zinc! Eat it, drink it, rub it on!

Food can also be a problem for some, if you eat something very often you could cut it out for a month or two and see if the situation gets better. I'd start with milk related products.
>> Guil
>>73071
You're an idiot.

OP, acne.org. I'd suggest buying the products there because they are fucking great. Actually the mosturizer irritated my skin but that may be just be me being allergic to one of the ingredients, which sucks because the shit is awesome.

Anyway, go watch the videos on how to apply the "three step" thing if you want to get rid of your acne. If you don't want to buy the products there you can use stuff you find in walgreens, but it's not going to be as good. But people there will suggest which ones will work best as replacements.

It's going to take at least 3 months (how long it took me) before you get rid of it.

Trust me seriously. I made it one of my new years resolutions to finally get rid of it and I am now.

Buy a bunch of white pillowcases and change it after you've slept on both sides. If you have enough pillowcases you just throw them in with your regular laundry basket so it becomes really easy and not a big deal to do. You could probably get like 3 or 4 pillowcases on one pillow and just peel the top one off before sleeping. Anyway this is only applicable if you sleep on your side or on your stomach, if you want to clear faster you can try to teach yourself to sleep on your back. I couldn't get myself to change that, but I change my sheets every 4 days and still cleared.

You need a topical with the BP, not just washing it with some soap. Trust me, watch the guy who made acne.org apply BP and you'll see why. Then go to the messageboards and look at the logs of people who you can talk to and see what they used and have before/after pictures.

But yeah if you have it on your chest/back you should consider a course of accutane. But again it's going to take 6 months or something of it to see results, this is the real problem. Go read those logs as well to see what you're getting into. Some people have worse acne until the last two months or something, and then clear forever.

tl;dr acne.org

this guy is right also
that bp gel they sell is the best
it works on body acne also not just your face, but your going to end up using alot of it

it will work as long as you use it, but you will probably go back to the way you were before about 2-3 days after you stop using it

accutane is what you want if you have really widespread acne

tl;dr
acne.org or accutane

>Acne is a problem pretty much everyone faces at some time in their lives, particularly when they’re teenagers. Acne is most commonly seen on teenagers going through puberty, because they have a wide variety of hormonal changes happening within the body. Acne can be a problem all through your adult years too, for both hormonal reasons, nutritional reasons, or because your body has a build up of toxins and needs to be cleansed.

The history of acne reaches back to the dawn of recorded history. In Ancient Egypt, it is recorded that several pharaohs were acne sufferers[citation needed]. From Ancient Greece comes the English word 'acne' (meaning 'point' or 'peak'). Acne treatments are also of considerable antiquity:

* Ancient Rome[citation needed]: bathing in hot, and often sulfurous, mineral water was one of the few available acne treatments. One of the earliest texts to mention skin problems is De Medicina by the Roman writer Celsus.
* 1800s: Nineteenth century dermatologists used sulphur in the treatment of acne. It was believed to dry the skin.
* 1920s: Benzoyl Peroxide is used
* 1930s: Laxatives were used as a cure for what were known as 'chastity pimples'. Radiation also was used.
* 1950s: When antibiotics became available, it was discovered that they had beneficial effects on acne. They were taken orally to begin with. Much of the benefit was not from killing bacteria but from the anti-inflammatory effects of tetracycline and its relatives. Topical antibiotics became available later.
* 1970s: Tretinoin (original Trade Name Retin A) was found effective for acne.[52] This preceded the development of oral isotretinoin (sold as Accutane and Roaccutane) in 1980.[53]
* 1980s: Accutane is introduced in America, and later found to be a teratogen, highly likely to cause birth defects if taken during pregnancy. In the United States more than 2,000 women became pregnant while taking the drug between 1982 and 2003, with most pregnancies ending in abortion or miscarriage. About 160 babies with birth defects were born.[54] [55]
* 1990s: Laser treatment introduced
* 2000s: Blue/red light therapy

taken from acnemyth.com

It has long been believed that foods that are fried, chocolate or soda cause acne. Well, this great debate is over because it has been shown that these items have no scientific root linking them to acne.

There is no scientific evidence that shows that foods such as pizza, French fries or soda cause acne. Acne is caused by a biomechanism that causes your sebaceous glands to produce too much oil. These oils are much different than those that are used in cooking food. This myth has been around for so long because people simply believe that it is true. They cease eating foods and their skin clears up, but this can be due to a variety of other physical effects. Some people have noticed these changes and a doctor will simply tell you that if you think that is the cause then stop eating those foods. They are not going to tell you that chocolate and Dr Pepper cause acne.

It is, however, very important that you do eat healthy. There are numerous nutrition related issues that may be caused when you don’t eat a healthy diet. What you eat will not directly affect your skin, but it can cause a variety of other health problems that are much more serious than acne, such as heart disease. A balanced diet will also leave you feeling better all around. You will have more energy, slow down the effects of aging and make a healthier environment for your skin.

go and see your GP/doctor and get prescribed some antibiotics (tetracyclines or possibly erythromycin or clindamycin) or benzoyl peroxide creams. they really do work and if not there are more potent specific anti-acne treatments.
>> Anonymous
unfortunately everyone has different skin, and it's impossible to know what will work until you try it yourself. proactive didn't work for me, but i know people who used it and cleared up very fast. whatever you try, give it at least 2 weeks to work, even if it says that it will work in 3 days or whatever. if you change your method too often, it will only make your skin worse.
>> Anonymous
OP, listen up, this is what cleared my skin completely.

Go to acne.org and check out their regimen. It takes some discipline, but it works for almost everyone. You can do it with products from your local store (don't have to buy anything from acne.org).

Seriously, drop everything and get started on this. It works. Don't do fucking accutane and start balding, don't take antibiotics and really get fucked over when you need them, just do this regimen.

I love St. Ives Apricot blemish control scrub. That (and the Target version, which works almost the same for half the price) was one of the only things that helped my skin when I was younger.

OP- if you're a girl (which I kind of doubt, but I'll throw this out there anyway), talk to your doctor about a low-dose birth control. One of the beneficial side effects of many birth controls is that the hormone regulation helps calm down acne-prone skin. Also, no babies.

I'm glad it worked for you. But you have to realize that in terms of acne treatment, accutane is the nuclear option. If every single avenue of treatment fails, accutane is the final step.

If at all possible, avoid it.

TO STOP ANY AND ALL ACNE YOU NEED JUST TWO THINGS:

1) A LOOFAH

2) DAWN DISH SOAP

BOTH ARE LIKE $3 FROM ANY STORE

APPLY DAWN TO LOOFAH
SCRUB FACE IN MORNING AND AT NIGHT

IT SCRATCHES YEAH, BUT IN TWO WEEKS YOU'LL HAVE THE CLEAREST SKIN EVARRRRR

Soap is really harsh for washing your face. Expect increased dryness.

So many fucking idiots in this thread. As someone who had bad back acne, i know what i'm talking about:

1) Washing wont cure acne, changing your diet wont cure ane -- acne is caused by oil glands responding to hormones. Everytime i hear someone say "stop eating chocolate" or "drink more water" I wanna rage.

2) prescription creams and antibiotics are the most successful treatments, but remember that antibiotics arent good for your body and acutane is fucking deadly -- check out the side effects.

See a doctor. Dont rely on the idiots in this thread who keep linking you to sites like acne.org and their "regime" and "before and after pics". Acne.org sells facewash. its a commercial site. put two and two together.
