Sometimes, when I am lying in bed in the morning after I wake up, I will kind of start drifting back to sleep. Sometimes when this happens, I lose control of all my muscles and I can't move anything, it feels like my arms and legs weigh hundreds of pounds. At this point, I wake up a bit more (Because this feeling scares the shit out of me) but I still can't get things moving again for a while, sometimes for several minutes. Eventually, I concentrate extremely hard and move a body part, at which point I can move everything. Sometimes after this, the cycle starts over again.

So, uh, is this normal or do I have some kind of condition? I'm guessing that I'm just kind of stuck between being asleep and being awake, but my memory of the event every time, as well as the fact that I can tell what is going on very clearly makes me unsure.

Phew, thanks. That takes a load off. This feeling scares the hell out of me every time it happens.

Yeah, its kinda normal and it sucks. Basically what happens is when your mind wakes up but your body is still stuck in REM sleep...in REM sleep your body is basically paralyzed so you don't roll out of your bed and break shit...my girlfriend used to have it, she said that she'd really try to focus on moving one body part and after a couple of seconds shed snap out of it.
