Soda Anonymous
I keep hearing soda is bad for you and stuff but I don't understand why. What exactly about it is bad? Is it really that bad?

I drink quite a bit and I am not fat or anything but I am starting to think about my health. If it really is so bad what are good alternatives? The main reason I like pop is because it is just so conveinent to have a drink in a can.

diabetes, son. Diabetes, plus too much sugar make you manic, and it's a lot of empty calories. Soda is great once and awhile, but if you want a sugary drink, make the switch to chocolate and other flavoured milks

the carbonation is bad for the teeth, and lining of esophagus and stomach... ulcers are bad.. and the high fructose corn syrup in most sodas turns to fat quicker than any other type of sugar... some is fine depending on your activity level, but you should try to stay away from it

start drinking water... I did and I fucking love it now, I'm kinda sick of pop

it has an insane amount of sugar in it, screws up your insulin levels a lot. The artificial flavorings and other misc. chemicals screw with your body too. Not to mention most people only like it because of the mild addictive properties, after 2-3 weeks of being soda free you don't even crave it.

The acidity is ferocious, especially given that the worst possible time to have it is when you're hot and your mouth is dry, which is the exact time you want it. I have six cans a day and the only reason I still have teeth is because I drink it through a straw and while eating and always clean my teeth properly, and even then they've been singificantly eroded.

so I looked at a bottle of diet lemon soda.

There's like 3calories in it, and almost nothing else (sugars and that shit)

is it still bad?
>> Anonymous

Better than most, but water is still better. Try to stay away from Coke and the like. If I'm having cravings I'll usually have a Lipton Ice Tea or a Sprite.

I've been trying to wane off sodas myself. Arizona ice teas have been pretty good. Still loaded with sugars but still pretty refreshing and not carbonated. The RX Tonic is so fucking good too. the Pomegranate one is tasty also and I heard that stuff helps your prostate.

Fake sugar substitutes fall along the same line as "chemicals/additives" argument for regular soda, except that's all you're drinking. Diet soda erodes teeth faster. It's been proven to cause diarrhea and other complications in people "digesting" it. Basically, your body doesn't get anything from it. Would you drink some chemicals you found just because it tastes good? Anyways, I think that's the basis of the argument. Also: tumors and cancer.

I've been downing their green tea like I need the shit to live. Some days I'll drink close to a gallon. Pretty sure it's just as bad as when I was a teenager and would drink over 2 liters of pepsi a day

Poster wanted to know the argument against diet soda is, so I tried to sum up some of the things I have heard. This is not a debate of my personal habits. If you want to learn to have a successful discussion and get the facts about an idea or point of view, then learn to view the argument. Hearing ideas or points of view and then trying to attack the person (and not the points of view) is very immature. Now, if you want my PERSONAL opinion (which was not provided in my previous post), I think drinking diet soda is just a feel good method and stupid. I consume water or tea 98% of the time, and maybe milk, soda, or OJ when I'm looking for taste 2% of the time. I don't think diet soda is good for you. I don't know if it's worse than regular soda. But, if you're so obsessed with taste that your willing to ingest dubious chemicals that "technically" have no effect (no calories) on your body, then I think you're just following magic faerie farts into la la land where consuming something equals no effect on your body whatsoever.

i've been off soda for 6 months now - drinking water and green tea

everytime i go out to eat, i usually get a soda, or i'll get an iced-tea because i honestly find drinking soda very uncomfortable now that i'm not used to the carbonation

i feel much better now that i am on water, my skin is in 10x better shape than it used to be

the effect of soda on your teeth is negligible is you BRUSH YOUR FUCKING TEETH 2 TIME A DAY LIKE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO

I've been listening to you guys carry on about how bad soda is, and I guess in EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS the bad stuff (sugar, acid) would begin to take its toll on your health. This thread shows that rather than employing thorough scientific investigation or objective reasoning, the adherents of the soda aversion phenomenon rely on their powerful internalized belief system to sustain their aversion.

Through my observations, social indoctrination leads to an internalized set of values that exaggerates the negative effects of soda consumption, to the point where any consumption of sugary, carbonated drinks are openly ridiculed. It's kind of like a social disease; like homosexuality or liberalism.
>> Anonymous
internalized isnt a word....and you couldnt be farther from the truth...the meat of this debate is based on the fact that doctors have been saying soda is bad for your health since the shit became a favored beverage and the facts behind it are SIMPLE WHY DO YOU NEED IT WHEN YOU CAN DRINK WATER? YOU DONT NEED SUGAR TO SURVIVE as any type of carbohydrate you ingest must be broken down into simple sugars to be utilized anyways...so why would you want to speed a glorious process like metabolism when its proven that the slower something can be absorbed is better?

Internalize
>in·ter·nal·ize
>1. To incorporate (the cultural values, mores, motives, etc., of another or of a group), as through learning, socialization, or identification.

and of course we don't need sugar, but then why do people drink it? You don't need alcohol either, and still we drink it. All I'm saying is that it isn't poison, and soda consumption by itself is not directly harmful to your health.

My biggest hurdle for switching is the habit.

Tea is good but I've never made any good tea b4.
Milk is okay but in small amounts.
OJ like milk is okay in small amounts.
Lemonade is good but acidic.
Water is only good when super cold and the weather is hot but is still tasteless.

None of these comes in cans or bottles really... Except water but geeze that is alot of money for bottled tap water.

I just tried this and it is yummy, imo. Pricey as shit tho.
>> Anonymous
I think what needs to be realized is that the excessive consumption of processed sugars is bad for you.

When looking for an alternative to drinking nothing but soda you need to take in to consideration just exactly it is you're trying to replace/remove. I think once you've figured that out, the solution to your drinking diet will become apparent.

>>291632
You people make drinking soda sound like smoking.

I switched from 25% soda, 25% orange juice/milk, 50% water to almost 100% water because soda became expensive.
I didn't notice much change. Went from 165 to 155 in about 2 weeks and just stayed there. 6', no idea body fat.

Find your taste from food, and quit worrying so much about how what you drink tastes. Who cares if water is tasteless? Can't you enjoy the taste of food better? Focus on that.

>>291595
No shit, but how many Americans go to a Mexican groceria or buy Jones Soda? Not many, so your point is moot here.
>> Anonymous

>Who cares if water is tasteless?
The thing is it's NOT. When someone tastes water that has a very different taste then the water they are used to they freak out and think something is wrong with it.

EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT IS SO BAD ABOUT DIET SODA
>> Anonymous
>>291909
NOTHING.

the only thing wrong with soda is if you drink 3 two liters a day like i did when i worked ina pizza shop.

Coke Zero, Hansen's zero sugar and other brands with ZERO calories are fine, its nothing more than a little sodium, now in 20 years when they find out phenyline or whatever anti freeze style chemical sweetener they are using causes brain cancer, thats when itll be bad for you.
