Hello /fit/.

Is it possible to lose weight while doing weight lifting? My workout schedule has me going to the gym and weight lifting every Mon Wed and Fri, while the other days I do cardio with DDR.

I've been doing this for 2 months and my weight has barely changed. My waist isn't getting any smaller for sure.

Is it the weight lifting making me heavier?

How long are you doing the cardio for?

lifting weight will make you heavier, as muscle weighs more than fat. What you should do, is to work weights for a while, say, 2 months, then cut your fat down and really focus on cardio, be it running, jumping rope, or DDR in your case.

Usually half an hour or more. I play on Heavy.

My main goal is too lose fat though.

If you're trying to lose weight I'd say up your cardio (maybe 4 times a week) and cut back lifting to maybe once or twice. You could also change how you lift, as lifting heavier weights will build muscle (causing you to bulk up and gain weight) while more reps with lighter weights will tone your muscles and be more likely to help you burn fat. You could also replace lifting weights with things like pushups, crunches, and squat jumps, which would be less likely to cause you to bulk up in terms of muscle.

having more muscle means you will be burning more calories, so losing fat will be easier

Anon is right. You should scale up your cardio and only begin to cut back on lifting if you notice your recovery going into the toilet.

What is your diet? About how many calories do you eat on a given day? If your diet is pretty regular, do you mind posting it?

What is your weight/height/sex? What is your current waist size?

How intense are your workouts? I can't imagine DDR getting too heavy, but whatever. I suggest you throw in some fast jogging or running in once or twice a week.

All this crap anon posted about lifting is crap. I lift anywhere between 8 and 20 reps anytime I lift. Doing 6 reps doesn't help me gain mass and 20 reps doesn't 'tone' me up. Everything I do, I do til failure to gain strength. The reason I vary my reps and weight is to shock my muscles, so they don't get used to the same shit everyday. What you are looking to do is build strength, not mass. If you want mass, get some shitty suppliments that will store some water in your muscles or even worse, inject yourself with some synthol. A strong muscle will boost your metabolism and have you burn more calories throughout the day.

My diet isn't that great, and I don't know how many calories I eat per day. All I can say is I don't drink soda or eat hamburgers or anything like that. The worst thing I eat I guess is pizza.

>What is your weight/height/sex? What is your current waist size?

It's been fluctuating around 184-187 for at least a month. I'm 5' 10" male. Waist size is 34.

They vary. Sometimes hard, sometimes not. I think my body is getting used to it though so I should probably up the ante.

Yeah, the most you could possibly lose is about 20 pounds. But to lose even 10, you're going to have to work a little harder.

The first thing is to keep track of what you eat. Write it down, use a program or website (I use fitday.com, althougth their metabolic and lifestyle calories might be overestimated), but get it annotated. Because losing fat is all about having a calorie deficit (~500-1000) while working out. Calorie deficit is the negative difference between the calories you eat and the ones you burn (including sleeping and working).

Personally, I have found that 5-6 pounds of fat equal an inch. But that's me, so I don't know exactly how it will go for you. Depends where your fat is stored.

The other thing is you do need to step up the cardio a little. DDR might be fun and all, but with your current build, it's not enough to help lose weight (perhaps to maintain, but that's not your goal). So go get some decent running shoes and find a safe place to run. If you have free access to a gym, take advantage of lower impact exercises like swimming and an elliptical machine (even a treadmill). Set goals for yourself and try to beat your times. Running can suck at first, but you can learn to like it.

If you can find time, try to lift a little too. Increased muscle strength will help boost your metabolism.

for fucks sake, playing DDR isn't going to melt off the fat unless you do nothing but 8+footers.

I can't even coiunt how many mouthbreathers come to the arcade with fucking workout clothes and play on fucking light mode and do nothing but 3-4 footers. faggots.

DDR can possibly work... but there are better alternatives out there. Try interval running.

OP here. I actually can do 8 footers, and a few 9 footers. I usually only do a few of those per workout though.

I'm going to increase the intensity of my DDR workout before I give up on it. If that doesn't work I guess I'll take up running or the eliptical which I hate.

I'll start keeping a log of what I eat too.

Thanks anon.

Do a minimum of 30mins of cardio EVERY day. An hour would be best.
