Hey /fit/,
I, for quite some time, have had a problem with Tonsilloliths. Recently, however, they've started getting large and significantly more painful.

I have one stuck right now, and it's worse than any I've had before.

The only "cure" is to have your tonsils removed however.

How painful is that really? I know it's worse for adults than children, so is it worth it for a 21 year old?

I had my tonsils out at age 16 and it wasn't that big of a deal. I lost about 15 lbs (which I really didn't have to spare, since I'm a skinny guy), but otherwise there were no problems.

Also, in the past 9 years I've only gotten one throat infection.

aren't doctors recommending you NOT to take out your tonsils now?

yes they are, but that's general advice to the public. Most people don't get these horrible little bastards.

They're mostly just annoying/embarrassing but for some people they are downright painful.

i'm 24 and i get them. just started getting them within the last year. first time my tonsil was huge and hurting. i dug out about 3 of them the size of peas. since then i check on them every 2 weeks and clean them out before they gut huge and hurt. if you just keep at it they are manageable and not a huge problem. all else fails, go get ur tonsils removed

What do you use to remove yours? Just a toothbrush?

the first time i got them i have a q-tip and pushed on my tonsils and they started popping out. i had some wooden skewers lieing around so i used them to get back in there good and dig out the rest. The pits in my tonsil are HUGE so its easy to get food stuck in them, however this also makes it easier to get the tonsiliths out.

I've heard alot of people using waterpiks and buying some of those pointy things dentists use. it all depends on how big the pits are and how difficult it is to dislodge them.

my advice, use listerine everyday to prevent bacteria build up, dig around in there every so often to get the small pieces out. if you keep getting infections etc from them you could get them removed. if you dont get sick and find they are just inconvenient you'll have to find a ENT who will agree to take out ur tonsils for no real medical reason.

i haven't gotten mine out since the older you get the more of a pain it is to have tonsils removed. if they ever get any worse i would consider it though.

tl;dr i use q-tips and skewers to get those fuckers out

Huh, alright. The Waterpick worked pretty well, I guess I'll try it when it gets fully charged again.

Are you another anti-dairyfag or are you going to provide /fit/ with a credible source?
