"God damn, I need to lose weight" moment.

There's a lot of folks here on /fit/ who seem to want to start losing weight, and quite a few who already have.

So I want to know: What was your "Aha" moment, the moment you didn't just say "I need to lose weight" but that actually motivated you and started you on your way.

I had 2, the first was when my then girlfriend said "You could stand to lose some wait, you're getting tubby", after we broke up I stopped though because, in truth, I was doing it for her and not for myself.

My second was two weeks ago, I went to the doctor, got weighed. "Oh, there's no way that's me." Been back in my diet and excercising daily since.

What's your moment?

looking in the mirror and realizing I had the hips of a woman. That was a few months ago and now I'm 160 lbs, from 188.

March of this year when I realised the chances of me having sex this year without paying for it were slim to none. odds are slightly better, but will be much imroved in 6 months.

When I stretched out the skin on my belly as far as it would go. I used to have a 6pack and never be able to do that. Thats when I realized my bulk diet was just making me fat.

I've never been overweight. But recently I have realized that my life is in shambles, that I sit around on my ass all day without human contact, that my legs hurt when I walk to work ––

I started one week ago yesterday. I feel great.

Now I'm just waiting for my hair to grow out (FUCKTARD HAIRCUT) and then I will have friends again.

Mine was declining to go on a beach holiday with my friends because I was too embarrassed to be seen in a swimsuit.

See I don't do that, I just wear a shirt like a good fatass. Hopefully that will change in a year or so. Man, I haven't been in the ocean without a shirt since like 8th grade.

When I moved out of my house and realized that I was staying fat because my mother cooked such large quantities of food and we at it all. I lost 15 pounds my first year of college mostly attributed to eating smaller portions.

When someone gave me pants for Christmas.

The pants were a size two inches larger than I normally wore. And they fit.

I realized the direction things were headed, so I made a change.

Sorry if this is underwhelming. I never was a big fatty. I saw myself gaining weight slowly, but thought that I could lose it "whenever I wanted." But then those pants made me realize that other people were also seeing me gain weight.

Well i've never been fat in my life but about 2 months ago i realized i had a little of extra gut around my stomach and wanted to lose it but didn't have the will. Then i went to a toga party at my college and basically got dumped by the girl i had been dating for not being in good enough shape. Now i am already in much better shape and the joke is on her, because i'm dating someone so much hotter.

One day I realized I have a fetish for abs. Not on other people, either. I'm now going to live my dream.

I had some bad stuff happened and sank into a deep depression, starting drinking every day, more and more, ate junk, wanted to die. Looked in the mirror one day and saw my head looked tiny on my body. It had shrunk!! Quit drinking, been dieting and working out ever since, manscaping and tanning. Head is normal sized again, have muscles and 6 pack. I'm still miserable and want to die, but I look sexy as fuck.

Started taking 1200 mg lithium (in B4 "bipolar doesn't exist" bullshit) daily, after about a year noticed that I gained ten pounds. Suddenly I can't just eat whatever the fuck I want and stay at 129 lbs/5'6" It took me a while to actually do anything about it other than change my diet, but I recently started working for the YMCA so I got a free membership. I started going last week. I feel like I don't really know what I'm doing but I'm afraid to ask for help on here.

tl;dr free YMCA membership + not being able to fit into my clothes.

I started developing a stomach and was like "Wait, there used to be a six pack here. And where the fuck did my arms go?"

During my first days of college, I was getting snacks out of the vending machine. This went on for about 2 weeks straight. Then one night, when i was cramming as many snickers as i could in my mouth, i remembered how about 5 years before that I went through hypertension. I remembered how almost every day i would have dizzy spells and headaches. I started exercising about a year ago, and from doing cardio and weightlifting, i've managed to go from 265 lbs to 160 lbs.

I really enjoy the stories that involve "I lost x amount of lbs in this much time" but not "using such-and-such special equipment or routine".

Simply knowing that this diet i'm on combined with the cardio i've started will help me lose the weight I want to lose is enough to keep me going.

I was always fat. First "Hmm..." moment was when I went to the doctors and weighed in at 305lbs.

For some reason nothing changed, and I probably gained even more until a year later I couldn't fit into ANY of my jeans. I was like "lolwut, oh yeah I'm fat."

I'm at about 190lbs now.

I got salmonella from eating a Subway chicken teriyaki. I was in agony for about three weeks. When I recovered, I noticed I had lost 15lbs in weight. This was my kick start into getting slimmer. It felt like a new beginning for me and I started eating healthier and exercising more.

I was 280 at my heaviest, now down to 222 in a little under a year.

never had one.
I started losing weight (was like 180, 5'7") a few years ago because my friends and I started doing thing other than playing videogames and sitting around. We started playing sports and stuff like that more in addition to videogames and sitting around. Then I lost weight.

This inspires me /fit/.

Just last week I realized I had hit 283 lbs. after previously going from 260 to 230 in two months. I'm going to lose that weight again damn it, and more.

I was like, "Damn, I dont feel fat on the inside. I'm a really strong person. So why can't I self-motivate myself to look as awesome as I feel." Ta-da 60lbs later I'm thin now. Also, I don't want to feel like a marshmallow when I get fucked.

Have no friends, had nothing to do, and my parents and siblings making snide comments on my weight when I meet them at summer/christmas holz.

Lost 5kg, put on a fuckton of muscle but I still have a long way to go.

tl;dr: mild childhood trauma and boredom

And you are going to gain it back unless you stay committed. Shut the fuck up and train your ass off, and don't slack. Ever.
>> Anonymous
A combination of things, really.

Senior year of HS i took a class where you exclusively lift weights and run your ass off (as opposed to half-assing it in shitty sports and trotting on the track every now and then). That's what got me used to working out daily, but i still ate like shit, and actually gained weight during the school year (and not just muscle, plenty of fat).

Then towards the end of the school year for prom when i looked at my pictures i was just disgusted with how i looked. Made a resolution to have six pack by next summer.

So i've been eating right and working out all summer and will hopefully continue to do so (its great when youre at the point of exercising just being a habit) forever. Down from 188 to about 165.

Definitely one thing that helps keep you motivated is when girls start noticing your body. I still look horrific with my shirt off, but with it on, you'd think i was ripped to all hell.

I've always been heavy, hit 300 lbs in 8th grade (many many years ago mind you), then dropped to 210, then went back up to 260... When i moved again and started a new job, i drop 10 lbs right off the bat in a month, I was down to 240 recently, then I decided I had given up on a lot of stuff that had gotten me down from 300 to 210: So I started training again, and planning on getting back to things i stopped doing.

basically I'm doing it to be faster, stronger, better at my job, and get back into the sports i used to play.

I moved to california. I went from weighing about 110 pounds, to 170 in six months. My 'AHA' moment came, when some guy asked me out for homecoming, then said, "Would you like some fries with that?" . . . I was already the weird kid from Texas. Anyway. Needless to say, as I am out of highschool, I now weigh 115 pounds again.

I've been overweight most of my life. My girlfriend at the time was thin, so one day I finally got sick of being fat, and decided that I would no longer be like that and started loosing.

She told me one day that she lost a little and that I would have to as well so we weren't that different, I told her i was loosing weight and she was happy.

We broke up a week later.

Now I'm loosing weight to show that bitch that I'm not fat anymore.

I have a pair of jeans that are a bit tighter than my others. When I can't wear them comfortably I know it's time to trim down.

I had a hot girlfriend and I was handsome, but a little overweight. I figured it wasn't fair to her so I started working out and running. Never told her I was doing it for her or anything.

She broke up with me a month ago. I'm still working out and I've lost almost twenty pounds since I started two months ago. I've also gained a lot of muscle mass and I look loads better with my shirt off then I used to.

I'm hoping to a) get buff, win her back or b) get buff, piss her off for breaking up with me and find other chicks.

I always proud myself that I could eat anything I want because I'm not trying to shape my body, when working out, since my aim was to lift heavier all the time. I always hated those fucktards who would go on about protein supplements and claim excessive ferotiousness onto things like soda.

I had a chilled ass vacation in Hawaii one time. Later I was looking at those pictures and couldn't belive the whale in those pictures thinking he's hella hot.

I realized I needed to change something and that was food. I started to watch what I eat, stoped binge drinking all the time, and started to drink some whey.

I became the fucktard I always hated, but I'm happy that I am. I used to think by seperating what you eat, the overall appreciation of food will go down, thus resulting in a shittier life, but I was wrong. I appreciate food much more these days because I understand the scarcity of choosing this food to eat. I'm 15lbs lighter with more muscle and happy as a result.
