Hey /fit/. Can you guys explain something to me? Fiber. I don't really get it. It's supposed to regulate you, I know. But how, exactly, do you take proper fiber? I don't take any fiber supplements, but I enjoy eating me some Kashi GoLean in the morning, which is overloaded with fiber to the point where six or seven hours later, my stomach is in painful, gaseous, needs-to-shit knots.

What the hell is fiber? What is it doing to me and how the hell do I take it to be regular and not just be shitting by the end of the day?

when I had a pet bunny, I learned that if they are fed pellets(protein) and not hay(fiber) they will get bound up because the fiber is what pushes the gastrointestinal tract along. while humans are more complex, I do think that it works similarly.

Would a bowl of Fiber One a couple of hours before going to sleep help me poop in the morning?

Fiber is a part of your nutritional requirements. If you live in a Developed nation, chances are you are not getting enough of it.

There are two kinds of fiber, soluble and non soluble. You should get both. Easy natural sources are vegetables and fruit. All fruits and vegetables contain cellulose that is a natural non soluble fiber. Many also contain large quantities of soluble fiber as well. Both fibers aid in the motility or movement of your bowels, and keep your bowels toned and healthy. The difference in soluble and non soluble is that the non soluble goes right through you without any digestive process. You should be careful when increasing your fiber to not overdo it in the non soluble aspects right away. This will lead you to some crampin' instead of crapin'. Here is my recommendation:

Start eating oatmeal. Every morning for breakfast.
Then start adding the following slowly over a few weeks:
Prunes, raisins, beans, salad, apples, carrots.celery, broccoli, squash (my favorite) until you can really feel the difference.

Increase your water intake, as heavy fiber intake absorbs a lot of water, and can lead ironically to constipation. enjoy your craps.

And your advice if I eat that already?

Oh my god. I think that's what has fucked with my bowls recently.

If you are already doing that, I would say "good job" and don't push it too far. Also, the following may be helpful.

PROTIP=when you crap, wait until it is practically poking it's head out. never, ever push. for really good and effective shits, flip up your toilet seat, and squat from the ground. When you shit, you should not push with your stomach in any way. The squatting aligns you in a superior ergonomic position.

... Well then.

I just wanted to know how I can enjoy both Kashi in the morning and pain-free evenings. I guess it's back to oatmeal.

a question, if I may. I eat plenty of dietary fibers, raw squash, cucumbers, mushrooms, and carrots.

I shit a lot, but it tends to be little watery. Would this go away since I've been eating these veggies for two months now or is it just way it is?

well, I hesitate to make a diagnosis, other than to say that if you are shitting out a lot of water all of the time, you could have a bug of some kind or intestinal flu. If you are really squirting a lot, you might want to get a fecalysis done just to be sure, along with your routine check up/ physical. Shitting fluids is not good because you lose a lot of electrolytes and can be dehydrated a lot. Your shit should be fairly well formed ideally speaking.

if you eat a lot of sugar or refined grains/processed foods that may be causing more putrifaction in your colon?? just 2 cents..

What should I do if I keep having constipation over and over and over?
