Hey /fit/

This may sound stupid, but im genuinely curious. Ive recently started working out. a lot. I lift 3 times a day, punch the shit out of a bag for cardio, and take tae kwon do and hapkido classes every day. Im feeling great (past the first few weeks where everyday was horribly sore) im sleeping better, and im getting in better shape. But ive noticed that im hungrier. A LOT hungrier. i eat at least twice as much as I used to. Ive got lots of nutritious food to aid in my quest for a sexy bod. But is it normal to have 2.5 times your previous appetite? Im a fucking beast for food.

if you are korean then you should not have an increase in appetite

if you are white/other then this is normal
>> Anonymous
yes normal. you burn more energy and need calories to replenish it. Furthermore you damage your muscles, which needs protein to rebuild and strengthen.

olympic powerlifters do their lifts 3 times a day every day

they're also experienced lifters and most, if not all, have trainers and nutritionists that watch over them near 24hrs a day.

lifting 3 times a day for a beginner will result in overtraining. but hey, if you think a beginner is just a well off as an experienced olympic powerlifter, then be my guest.

also, why the fuck are you comparing a novice to someone who does lifting as their career?

not everyone is the same when it comes to recovery time, its something you should figure out on your own. personally i did the same lifts 5 days a week for 3 months and made fantastic gains (bench/squats/deadlifts etc) went from barely being able to do 135x6 to 225x4 on bench and 135x10 on squats to 245x12 on squats.

doesn't it make more sense that everyone is going to have a different recovery time, the same way everyone has a different metabolism and needs a different numbers of calories?

it's irresponsible to give advice that can potentially harm another. the responsible thing to do is to go by the guidlines set forth by professionals for normal people who are beginners(which is to give your body plenty of time to rest between workout sessions) than to callously recommend something that can be dangerous in the off-chance that OP is the exception to the rule.

"Just because 10 people out of 100 who jumped off a 10 story building survived, does not mean everyone should jump."

yeeeouch this man has a point

actually i said they should experiment and see what kind of recovery time works for them. one of Pavels books even suggests doing some exercises when ever you think of it and have a few free minutes whenever and however often you can.

Op here,

motherfuck, i sound like a freak, i meant 3 times a week.

This man wins, don't overtrain!

Also, congrats on getting active. I'm in the same boat as you. One thing to watch is that even if you don't workout like crazy for one week, you will still want to eat like a beast. So it's very important to monitor your caloric intake if you have a sudden drop in activity.

experiment, yes. but lifting 3 times a day will just result in overtraining 99% of the time. why not start at the safe guidlines and experiment from there rather than start experimenting at a point where you can gravely injure yourself?

anyways, OP already clarified that he meant "week" not "day" so the argument is moot.

personally i think "overtraining" is a pile of horse shit.

do it if you like, but your gains from "overtraining" will be minimal and probably not noticeable.

over-training is the reason farmers and miners and guys who do moving furniture and such for a living are so weak after years of doing it right? because they've over-trained all their muscles away.

there are no olympic powerlifters
