Maybe someone can explain this to me...

Due to my fast metabolism I find it extremely hard to gain weight, however I'm 5'11 and 140-145lbs. and wouldn't mind putting on 20-30 pounds so I've looking into high-calorie diets(currently doing 3k a day).

Now, when I read about these diets, I heard it's best to combine weightlifting/some similar exercise with the high calorie diet.

Here's my question: Wouldn't the exercise counter my high calorie intake? i.e. burn the calories instead of me gaining weight? If what I read is correct, why? Explain please.

Thanks.

the weights will turn those calories into muscle so you won't just be fat.

i thought that only worked with protein?

It takes energy to do the resistance training, it takes resistance training to get big, it takes even more energy to do the stuff on a cellular level required to build muscle, it takes even MORE energy to maintain muscle.

This is why bodybuilders eat like 5000+ Calories a day.

This is also why I'm giving up on my 190 lbs goal, and dropping back down to 150, it's just too damned expensive eating all this food. I love eatanz, but I love money more, and I need all I can get right now.

I understand that, but getting huge muscles isn't my goal really. I just don't want to be so damn lanky... if I get muscles out of it cool, but thats not really my goal.

you bring up another point that I forgot to cover in my last post. Doesn't your body use carbs and calories for energy? So what does that leave me to gain weight with?

Well, there can be some seperation between the two. Calories can also come from protein and fats.

Also, OP, you clearly don't know how calories work. Look up bulking on various bodybuilding websites, some of them are even catered to ectomorphs like yourself.

OP, we are the exact same height / bodyweight.

Just wanted to let you know.
