Does body-building MAKE people think they are superior to less fit people?

OR does it just attract inferior people who need to prove themselves to others and can only do so in a brute or animalistic manner?
>> Anonymous
It didn't make sense on the first read, and didn't bother to give it a second one.
>> SAGE
ah shit

i forgot the crowd i was dealing with. next time i will stick to mono-syllabic words.

Is OP a faggot?

OR is he just a brute or animalistic troll
>> SAGE
in my experience people that seriously lift weights are overly aggressive and look down on others while ignoring their own faults

i was curious if all bodybuilders are like this or do they slowly become this
>> Anonymous
Maybe we just want to improve our bodies and health?
>> Anonymous
I'm not a bodybuilder but yes, exercise has made me a superior human being to my older self.

I'm also superior to those who are like me, but are not fit.

lololol zing
Why can't it be both?
>> Anonymous
I do it because I'm ugly and it's the only way I'll ever get girls
>> Anonymous
Most bodybuilders are meatheads, there ain't no getting around this. I don't think lifting would turn someone with a decent personality into a megalomaniac.
>> Anonymous
i don't think im a superior human being than the average person, just stronger.

I don't lift to prove my self, I lift so that I am healthy and do better in my sports of choice (football and wrestling). Lifting does not change your personality, it might just bring out what was already there.

I've recently began lifting weights and have been gaining some muscle mass, and to tell you the truth I feel mentally different. I get pissed off more easily, shorter attention span etc.
I hope this doesn't last.

But exercise is supposed to make you feel better in your daily life
endorphins and all that
>> Anonymous
>>382260
that's more like alcohol. Lifting doesn't make you lose inhibitions and be your true self it makes you produce extra testosterone which can turn you into an agro douchebag when you used to be chill and laid back.

If you think about it... we are no different than most animals. Hell we are just another animal species when it come right down to it. We just happen to the be smartest!

DON'T FEED THE TROLL

I lift weights just so that the superiority of my physical appearance mimics the superiority of me as a human being and makes faggots come to /fit/ to complain about how fucking awesome I am while they're still fat and drinking bacon oreo milkshakes.
>> Anonymous
>bacon oreo milkshakes

My preferred recovery drink.

I'm sure there are plenty of decent musclefags out there but in one of my tutorials at college there are 3 guys who obviously work out are the biggest meathead douchebags ever. You get the impression they would fly in to a roid rage if you looked at them the wrong way.

I only asked because I happen to peripherally know 3 weight lifters and nearly all of their conversations are about how everyone else is a failure.

I hear about how NOONE should go to the gym because they are not serious enough.

I hear how the employees there should be shot for not understanding the equipment well-enough.

I hear how their friends who do not weight lift enough are pathetic.

I hear how they proudly beat people up for harmless jokes like changing a desktop picture on their computer.

It seems, in the mind of these weight-lifters, everyone is inferior and to be criticized or crushed.

The thing is, I have known two of them for a while and before they were like this they were chubby nerds.

Hence my question.

i laugh at people who believe they are fit but are not.

I do not lift to be superior, i lift so that i wont live with the shame of being weak.

Yes i do prove myself to those who deserve it, read first line, these people are pathetic and will never achieve greatness

A superiority complex is a variation of inferiority complex. They have the same base: a deep-seated insecurity, a fear of being seen as worthless.

The difference in a superiority complex is a certain defense mechanism: focusing on one area where they feel they excel, and exaggerating its importance as an overrationalization of their non-inferiority. If everyone else is inferior, then *I* can't be inferior!

Taking up a "self=improvement" hobby like bodybuilding is often part of moving from an inferiority complex to a superiority complex.

I call bullshit, where do get stats from backing this up? I don't see you say thing the same about people playing basketball or the violin =/
>> Anonymous
violin is different.

if someone becomes a virtuoso with violin the knowledge they have stays with them until they die and they are able to create entirely new ideas for all of humanity that may live on beyond their death.

a body-builder loses his effort over a couple years and contributes nothing to humanity or culture.

one is infinitely more productive, meaningful and lasting than another. one group is also infinitely more self-absorbed and confrontational.

so far i am inclined to believe body-builders are just weak and insecure people looking for the easiest way to achieve what they perceive as superiority.
>> Anonymous
average lifting enthusiast:

YOU MAY BE BETTER LOOKING, BE MORE INTELLIGENT, OR HAVE MORE MONEY THAN ME BUT I CRASH YOUR HEAD WITH A ROCK SO I AM SUPERIOR!

Us /fit/ties are superior to your type, OP, but we're not neurotic enough to sit around analyzing it.

>>382678
what? no you have a horrible argument because
1) you took my example to an exaggeration - most people that play the violin do so as a hobby (as did I). And to be honest im pretty sure alot more people who know of arnold instead of yo-yo ma.

2) and much like the violin is a hobby, almost everyone has a hobby. Sports is probably one of the big ones, and i said for example, basketball. You don't think: oh that guy is really good at basketball, he must be a douchebag. wtf?

and lastly, who are you to decide what is more productive? I don't see how pushing the human function to its limits and basically sculpting your body into a piece of art is any more or less meaningful than plucking strings. You seem to be putting down the idea of bodybuilding because its not 'long-lasting', but you, again, are wrong. The idea of achieving the 'ideal' body has been engrained in the mind of cilizived man much longer than a petty instrument.
>> Anonymous
Well if you think about it, Any bodybuilders in half decent shape are superior to fatties who arent in good shape.

If you're in shape it means you had the drive, willpower and mental strength to get there, something that the average fatty just can't muster,

Surely having these qualites makes you at least a little superior. Also I understand that weightlifting isn't for everybody, some people don't want to be ripped. But I know for sure, no fat person wants to be fat, ever, no matter how much they try and say otherwise.

So I think fit people are superior, at least in those key ways over unfit people. Also with fitness comes confidence and confidence is usually a positive trait.

>>382780
...this would all be true if most bodybuilders weren't gym rats who are unemployed, part-timers, or otherwise huge losers, and just hang out at the gym every day, without doing anything with their lives.
>> Anonymous
No shit alot of bodybuilders are narcissistic. The number of fags at my gym that do 100s of curls in front of the mirror make me laugh. Alot of them look at me wondering how i got so big without doing endless curls.
I want to shotput that dumbell into their faces.

But there are those that just like to keep fit, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to look attractive either.
>> Anonymous
of course there is nothing wrong with being fit.

the people who think that bodybuilding is a hobby on par with violin are stupid though.

bodybuilding is lost quickly, requires no creativity and is difficult to transmit culturally.

violin utilizes creativity, intelligence, dedication, skill, can be spread between people and is permanent.

bodybuilding or weightlifting is not a legitimate hobby or something to take pride in.

No. I'm weightlifting to bulk up and I'm as insecure as a 40 year old virgin Korean, even though I shouldn't be.
