Hi /fit/,

I'm on a diet right now. I currently weigh 215lbs. I've been losing about 2 1/2 lbs a week for 8 weeks and when I started I weighed 234lbs, so the weight is coming off slowly. My height is 6foot 1 and i'm a broad build.

My questions are:

1) Should I be losing more than 2 1/2 pounds a week? I only consume 1200 calories a day and I walk a few miles or do weights 4-5 time a week.

2)What would be a good weigh for my size? I'm aiming for 196lbs as my first main goal, but is even this too heavy?

thanks

Pic unrelated.

here's an idea, how about instead of coming here and asking your stupid vapid questions you go and actually read up on fitness, health and diet? you know, empower yourself and shit? if you want to be healthy and fit, why don't you read about what healthy and fit people do?

Well he has a point. You really shouldn't trust the advice of internet. Especially 4chan.

My advice on the subject matter is, don't worry. Unless you are in a hurry, the current weight loss is quite adequate.

But as I said, you shouldn't trust me..

Just keep at it losing 2 pounds a week is very good m8. You don't wana lose too much because you might end up with loose skin and stretch marks.
Just keep at it m8 and by summer time you'll be ready to hit the beach.

Don't put yourself in a caloric deficit of more than 500 calories per day or you'll be losing mostly muscle weight, and the muscle's helping you burn the fat.

You need to eat more. With an intake as small as yours your body is burning significant amounts of muscle. I guarantee you a good portion of that 2.5lbs lost each week is muscle.

Probably the reason that you're losing weight slowly is that you're lifting weights. This is actually a good thing; it means that you're building muscle mass (which is more dense than fat) as you are losing fat. When I was in college, I only lost about 5 pounds lifting (I weighted 185) but my physique improved considerably.

Worry less about how you look on the scale and more about how you look in the mirror.

you sound similar to me. same height and build; I started losing weight at 224 pounds 8 weeks ago. I'm currently 210 and aiming for 194 by July, which means I need to drop about 1.5lb per week from now until then.

First off, just focus on REACHING that target weight. From there you can decide if you think you could do with being lighter.

The only problem I see is that you aren't consuming ENOUGH calories. With a deficit like that your body is going to start burning muscle instead of fat, I suggest you use an online calorie calculator to figure out exactly what your calorie intake needs to be.

Other than that you are doing great, 2.5lbs is a little above average since you're a pretty big guy, but don't be surprised if your weight loss starts to decline to ~2lbs per week eventually.
