Hi /fit/

What exercises can I do to improve my pull-ups. Right now I can't do any. Somebody told me to just jump up and try to lower myself as slowly as I can.

Do as somebody said
>> Anonymous
assisted pullups wouldnt hurt
>> Anonymous
Lat pull downs
>> Anonymous
Do not do lat pulldowns. They do not transfer as well as assisted pullups.
>> Anonymous
Lat pull downs won't help pull ups at all. Just do what your friend said, jump up and slowly lower yourself down. They're called negatives.

if you're a girl train your grip too

Assisted pullups (have someone grab your legs and lightly help you on the way up. Or, use assistance bands, they are like 20 bucks) Or, Kipping pullups, google it. Or, as everyone else said, negatives. The more you do, the better you get at them. Other exercises won't do anything, you get better at doing pullups by doing... PULLUPS!

I originally could do 0 pull ups and 3 push ups. So I just kept doing push ups. By the time I got good at push ups I found I could do about 3 pull ups.

Now I can do 20x3 pushups and 10x3 pull ups.

did you also lose weight during this time?

20x3 why not just do 3x20 or 6x10.

do lat pulldowns, same muscle groups.

contrary to popular /fit/ belief, muscles can be strengthened though various methods and that strength carries over onto tasks that are not just moving heavy things to make your muscles bigger.

Sorry no.

IF YOU WANT TO GET BETTER AT PULL-UPS, FUCKING DO PULL-UPS.

Imagine if you wanted to get better at geometry, would you do algebra? No, you'd fucking do geometry.

ANYONE WHO TELLS YOU DIFFERENTLY IS A TROLL/IGNORANT CUNT.

well, yes and no

you are 'right' in the optimal sense of motor learning, ie do pullups to get better at doing pullups, as its SPP

versus the more GPP of doing 'similar, but different' exercises, that train the same areas, but utilize different motor pathways.

both work.
it all depends.
i doubt that i should share this, as it will get abused...but i added 20lbs to my 1RM chin by training biceps specially for a few weeks. mind you, my ratio of chinning to curls is 1000:1, so likely i am an outlier in these things, but still....

Lat pulldowns.... LMFAO!!

You must be one skinny turd for curls to actually help you with pull-ups.
>> Anonymous
no, 195 and 6', <9% bf.
curls are for big fags. but, biceps were the weak point in my 1RM tests. worked up to 295.

like i said, i am the outlier. but it 'all works,' especially if someone cant do a single one.

how bout them apples?

Pretty juicy, sweet, and all around tasty. I will probably go buy some more tommorow if we run out.

well, you have to be good at multiplication before you can get good at geometry.

pullups... do more of them.

you have to be fairly strong in lat pull downs before you see a transfer in strength but it is a way, just not the best way.

That pic made me think of Dead Space for some reason...

About a year ago I could do shit for pullups. I did a ton of lat pulldowns progressing in weight, and when I tried pullups again I could do like 12 in a set.

everyone should do curls. It's like the most important exercise. Right after the leg press.
