so according to david barr you should take protein 30 mins after your workout, but i usually do 20-30 mins of cardio (either HIIT or swimming) after my lift session. So heres the question, should I take my whey right after my cardio or should i wait 30 mins after the entire workout (cardio included) to take protein?
>> Anonymous
If you're doing cardio, why are you taking whey? Whey is for bulking.

He probably meant 30 minutes MAXIMUM. That is the time your muscles will absorb the protein best.

Take it before the cardio. Then have a big fuck off meal after that!

no dude 30 mins minimum - anything else before that actually stunts protein synthesis. I was shocked when i read that too, but yea =x.

I know what whey is for, but just because i want to dead lift 375 before the semester ends doesn't mean i can't look good doing it (and run a 8 minute mile).

and i can't really eat anything before my lower body workouts - if i wait anything less than an hour i'll just have an urge to throw up during deads/squats.

I have never read anything claiming that. I doubt the effects are drastic, as long as it is taken recently.

It would make more sense to me to take the whey after weightlifting. Your muscles are begging for it most then.

why 375 pounds?
wouldn't 4 plates per side be a better goal?

>>378306

not if you eat a bannana after

drink it slowly 15 mins into your cardio

that way you won't go catabolic from cardio at all, and your body should use more fat as fuel for the cardio - at least that's how its supposed to go

Interesting, but what about quick absorbing whey isolate?
>> Anonymous
>>378402
whey is not 'quick absorbing' - it might be if you compare it to casein, but overall it takes a long time to absorb
>> Anonymous
>>378434
I thought the whole science and reasoning behind isolate was to make whey fast absorbing.

well sorry to burst your bubble.

well your not really bursting my bubble as the article was whey specific and didn't make mention of isolate.

>Digestibility of Whey Protein

Whey protein rates over 100 on the Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS), although the highest score they list is 100. That means that whey is very easily digested by humans. In fact it's so high in essential amino acids and easy to process that it's used in infant formula as well as for some medical treatments. Body builders and other athletes like it so much because it is quickly absorbed into the body. This is especially true of whey isolate.

>Whey Isolate
- it is extracted by ion exchange that removes more lactose and fat than other methods. This whey protein may be as pure as 99% protein and is the one that's absorbed faster than all others. First the milk is tested for purity, pasteurized and the curd (casein) is removed to make cheese. The remaining whey is specially filtered and the lactose is removed. The remaining concentrate goes into an ion exchange tower that won't break down the whey protein. The final step is the drying tower to remove any water

whey iso reaches peak blood concentration in a matter of hours.

whey hydrolysate can reach peak in about 20-40 minutes

only 10 minutes slower than straight BCAAs

hydrol also better matches (and assists) in the pwo insulin spike when mixed w/a 'fast digesting carb powder' (also around 20-40min) so the ACTUAL transport of the desired nutrients will be much better than a carb-whey iso mix (w/2 differing digesting patterns)
