8 Glasses of water a day? Doesn't that seem like a bit too much?
>> Anonymous
I used to think so. Started carrying a water bottle around. Get about 170 fl. oz a day now (ten bottles).

It's a lot easier when you work out. Water's like fucking crack cocaine then.
>> Anonymous
I drink at least 10 a day on my days off of going to the gym.
>> Anonymous
you're supposed to get in at least a gallon when you're cutting so 8 (8oz) glasses is nothing.

not

"bottles of water"

glasses is a bit of a vague description, however I go through about 2.5L a day
>> Anonymous
Actually drinking that much water in one day is ridiculous. Especially if you're sweating a lot.
>> Anonymous
You're normally suppose to drink about 1.5 to 2L of water a day (average).
>> Anonymous
You're supposed to drink a lot of water a day.
>> Anonymous
I thought the "at least 8 glasses of water a day" is a busted myth.

Drink water when you get thirsty or just suspect you need it.
>> Anonymous
I drink around 3-4L of water a day. Your body can handle a lot more than 8 glasses. Don't worry about it.
>> Anonymous
for the reccord, the reccomended dose is 2 litres or 2000 ml
a cup/glass is 250ml
a bottle is 300-350

so up to you, just dont drink less than four-five, especially if you take protein powders, or you risk kidney problems
>> Anonymous
Dang I've been drinking about 6 to 7 liters a day.... i think i will drink less because of this thread... damn.

your repertoire can be used to counter that breathing air is harmless since it can be forced into the lungs under pressure with lethal results

>>115552
yeah dude while I'm in the bathroom I'll start up before someone comes in there then finish up after he has already taken a piss then washed his hands, lol. Embarrassing and awesome at the same time :\

still though, a negative is having to occasionally waking up at like 3am having to piss like a motherfucker. Other than that it's nice not being hungry all the time.
>> Anonymous
>>115567
I'm sorry I mean to 'occasionally wake up'
>> Anonymous
>>115552

Actually no, the more water you drink, the more you put strain on your kidneys to filter all that water. It's not like water "flushes out all the toxins" either.
>> Anonymous
When they say glass of water, i believe they mean 250 mL no?
>> Anonymous
In the morning, drink until your pee comes out clear. Repeat until bedtime.
>> Anonymous
No.

I was drinking a gallon and a half a day (6L). That was while I was doing karate, working out 5 times a week, and bulking w/ creatine.

It seems like a lot at first, but you realize you need it and it's not so bad.
>> Anonymous
The excess consumption of water makes a lot of sense, really. One function of food is to trap water to keep us hydrated. But when we diet and work out, we're burning all those calories up real quick, and thus need a relatively continuous stream of water going through us to keep us hydrated.
>> Anonymous
>>115523

If you're thirsty, you're already in the early stages of dehydration.

Also, if drinking water is difficult for you, just force it or try filtered water. I used to gag on plain water, but now I can chug half a liter in a few gulps. Switching to filtered water aided greatly in this.
>> Anonymous
FYI, you get water from almost everything you eat already. And, yes, you CAN be hydrated by things like soda, juice, ect.

Eight glasses a day is excessive.
>> slim !yE5LOsLjxQ
>>115715
moron.

if you were supposed to include the water that you consumed in your food, the amount woul dbe changed. 8 glasses is 8 glasses and this is not excessive at all. i'm a big guy, so i drink about 12-14 glasses during the day. i would say i have about 10 oz before i leave for work, 6-10 4oz cups during the day plus one 18 oz cup at lunch, then 12-20 oz during my workout, and another 10 oz at dinner. usually another 6 oz before bed. that's about 92 oz, or 3/4 gallon. "8 glasses" means 8 glasses of 8 oz each, totalling to 64 oz or half a gallon. taking in my approx. 92 oz, i still find myself thirsty during the day.

>>115606
actually, low concentration of waste is easier to filter, since kidneys filter it passively. You cannot overwork them with empty labour much like you cannot overwork a blood vessel with blood flowing for too long.

i add one teaspoon of sugar and six to eight of lemon juice to a bottle of water... approx

beats the shit out of gatorade, has barely a calorie and costs nickels

WHAT THE FUCK.

How fucked up are you Coke-swilling Americans that you can't drink water? You gag!?! You don't like the taste?! It doesn't even taste.

That's like saying you don't like breathing air, it makes you gag. Water is so essential for everything. What the fuck.
>> Anonymous
I think I remember a post on /fit/ that said if you drink too much water, then you'll dilute the electrolytes in your body or something.

I would actually like to hear a doctor's opinion on this.

I'm from UK...Also I disagree, water has a very distinctive taste. Even bottled/purified has taste. I have grown to accept it however and now drink pretty much only water.
>> Anonymous
>>116169

It is mostly due to the fact that unfiltered city water which most of us drink has boatloads of shit in it. It's a lot like drinking swimming pool or ocean water. Then I moved onto a mountain with well water drawn from an underground spring and was able to gobble it down.

Yeah, it's true. If you drink too much water your cells start to take on fluid and can stop functioning. Then you become AN HERO.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication

You gotta drink a crazy amount for that to happen though.
>> Anonymous
>>116173
But how do you GROW to accept it?! Surely you've been drinking it since you were born? You should be 'used to it' by like 2 years old.

>>116183

Believe it or not there are some people who have barely had water in their entire lives. First milk or baby formula, then juices and colas, then beer and alcohols. These are the same fuckers who have cavities up the ass cause their parents think juice is healthy just because it has fruit in it maybe sorta (ok, it's just synthetic powder and you're getting ripped off)
>> Anonymous
I rarely drink water, surely your body will store what is needed? I just find if I drink water I actually feel more dehydrated because I'm pissing and sweating all fucking day.
>> Anonymous
>>116183
I don't know, maybe my dislike for water came from my mother, she doesn't like water so I guess as a kid I was given mostly squash. The only time I would drink water before went to Uni was if I was really parched and dehydrated.

Uni however changed me. It was cheaper to just drink water and less effort (could keep bottles of water in my room for constant hydration)

I'd also like to point out that a taste will vary country to country. Sydney (Australia) water has chemicals in it, traces of fluorine and stuff to help our teeth.

My parents never gave me juice when i was a kid. Or sodas. They were forbidden. I'm kinda glad for that.

I take a glass of water per hour while I'm awake, or a 0.5L bottle every 2 hours. Not that hard.
>> Herbie !!s1ksehRmCZk
Drinking plenty of water is important. Very important. I'd recommend getting a decent water filter at home, too, as chlorine, fluorine, etc aren't good to be putting into your body all the time for decades and decades.

I don't actually count how much water I drink, I pay attention to the tone of my urine and drink more/less based on it.

Easy, effective way of monitoring your water intake.
>> Anonymous
8 glasses a day was the suggested intake for Allied trench-diggers during ?world war II? (maybe I. . .)

And that included water from food and other beverages.
I just drink when I'm thirsty though. Makes sense that my body'd know what it needs, eh?

2) If you piss, and it looks like lemonade, then YUR DOIN IT WRONG
>> Anonymous
>>116524
Oh I'm sorry, I forgot that women are unable to look between their legs while urinating and are also unable to gauge the color of what's in the toilet bowl when done.
>> Anonymous
There is so much fail in this thread...
The color of your piss isn't always a reliable indicator of whether you're getting enough water. You know what generally is? DO YOU FUCKING FEEL THIRSTY!? If you are, then drink some water you fucking failures.

God damn it. The color of your piss is a function of a lot of god damn things. Among them, dissolved B vitamins and other shit. There is no reason to make your kidneys work hard to filter water that you don't even fucking need.

ya know, if you read it, it sounds more like a electrolyte deficiency then a water overdose.

sure, if you drink three gallons of water and don't eat anything, that'll fuck you up but good. but if you eat a normal diet you shouldn't have a sodium (or anything for that matter) deficiency.
