Stronglifts 5x5 Holy Shit Butts !!UT84wajcyM1
Hi /fit/. Is stronglifts 5x5 pretty much the place for a beginner to start his workout plan? My goal is to build some muscle and tone, not to become a beefy bodybuilder, so is this appropriate? Second, I've always had strong legs and a weak upper body thanks to genes. Please tell me why I'd still want to do SQUATZ, or if I don't do squatz what I'd do instead?

Squats increase strength, explosive lifts like power cleans increase your power. They are two different things.

OP is extremely stupid for fearing becoming too "bulky". It doesn't happen overnight, you can stop when you want. And you'd really need roids to touch what a bodybuilder looks like

Also, if you think your legs are strong, go try squatting 120 and tell us it again when you can barely do any reps (if any)

where the fuck do you figure sqautz will make you beefy. if you squatz 400 pounds for 3 reps everyday then youll get beefy. do midrange number of reps 5-15, pyramids and half reps you dickbutt and youll gain toned muscle.

How are squats not an explosive exercise, especially when done at near maximal weight?

If you're lifting heavy, you're lifting as fast as you can.

This is a matter of semantics. Olympic lifts are the explosive lifts I am talking about. They build power, or acceleration and quickness. Squats, deadlifts, and bench presses build raw power - the ability to lift heavy shit, but not necessarily with power.

The point is that an exercise like deadlifts will not build explosive power like power cleans will. This is why Rippetoe includes them in his routine

you got that right. Its amazing how misinformed peopel are. They think lifting something heavy and lifting it fast is all the explosive/acceleration training they need. I mean, it does work, but not as well as oly lifts.
