Eat six meals a day. Every single meal should have a lean protein, a whole grain complex carb, a carefully proportioned amount of good fat, and a bunch of vegetables.

Good thing I have a team of chefs following me around to make that possible. UNREALISTIC

replace your skim milk with soy milk. i just started drinking it recently and i must say with cereal it is delicious in addition to being superior in every way, containing equal calcium to whole milk

also, salads are quite silly unless they are based on raw spinach instead of lettuce, considering how little nutritional value lettuce contains

having an eggwhite omelette with vegetables (fresh spinach, mushrooms, peppers, etc) cooked in olive oil or whatever kind of heatlhy oil is your preference with some kind of toast a couple of times a week is fine just to mix it up, because they are healthy and so scrumptious

Give some examples of a 'complex carb'

It's actually pretty easy, I work from 8 to 6 and follow my diet strictly.
If you add Whey protein to your diet, you only need to eat 4 solid meals.

Are you doing all that stuff?
I see too much cardio, most people only do max 1 hour a day, you are pushing it too far.
Go to a gym and do free weights.

By the way, your diet is shitty, are you counting the calories at least?

Ummmmmmm Take some oatmeal, scramble some eggs, and put some quality dressing on a salad. Takes 2 minutes.

Or keep calling it unrealistic, making excuses, and not reaching your true potential. Whatever works for you.

no. it just means you're lazy and can't plan ahead.

gaining muscle huh? sorry, what exactly are you doing to acheive this again?

soy is poison, and it's nutritional value is about fucking zero. most of the advice here is rubbish, as is the ops plan, because i really believe a fatty can do all of that aerobic work in one day and then do it again the next. fuck i hate you /fit/. you're full of idiots. 'complex whole grain carbs', lol. sure, if unlike 70% of the worlds population you're carbohydrate sensitive. well done. ever get drowsy after eating sandwiches for lunch? fucking fools.

Are you saying that's a days worth of food and even remotely what the guy you quoted is bitching about? He's right, expecting anyone outside of professional athletes and bodybuilders to eat exactly what the other post said at every meal is ridiculous and not something that is enjoyable. Eating 6 meals a day everyday at the same time is unreal for those with demanding, dynamic jobs. Especially expecting each meal to be perfectly balanced and healthy, and never expecting people to enjoy what they eat. It IS unrealistic.

"True potential" is for those who get paid to do it or, dare I say, have nothing better to do.

The real object to strive for is near perfect meals that you can enjoy, and change up often so that you never get tired of them. No everyone wants to eat oatmeal, eggs and spinach everyday, ok? This is the problem with people who all of a sudden decide to eat healthy. They go on these health-binges and then realize they hate it and/or can't keep it up and/or don't WANT to keep it up.

he's not fucking right, it's just that you're fucking lazy and mediocre. healthy eating is great eating, it tastes fucking nice, is simple and easy to prepare, convenient and makes you feel great. you want to be a slab of shit your whole life then do so you lazy motherfucker, just don't go around bringing everyone else down with your fail.

OP has no fucking excuse though, he seems to have the time to go to the gym for 4 hour intervals everyday. It takes 5 minutes to prepare a meal.

>6 meals a day
>convenient

When you have no job or responsibilities, maybe. Theres nothing convenient about having to eat 3-4 times a day at WORK. Some people don't even get 4 breaks, and bringing that much food to the office everyday/preparing that much? Please, fuck yourself you basement dwelling moron

Set aside an hour on sunday (or whatever day you have off with some free time to kill). Go to the grocery store and buy huge amounts of food. Stock up; the idea is to only have to shop for food every once in a while, this is more time efficient.

When you get home, cook large amounts of chicken and turkey breast. All you have to do is take the frozen kinds you get at the supermarket and plop them in the oven for like half an hour. While they are cooking, take some vegetables ( i prefer romaine lettuce, broccoli, tomatos and carrots) and just chop them all up into a huge salad bowl. Take handfuls of ziploc bags and stuff them full of the salad. Put these in your fridge. Next set out a bunch of slices of good, whole grain bread on the counter. Take a nice dressing made with good fats (non hydrogenated soybean, canola, olive etc.) and spread some on one side of the bread. When the chicken/turkey is done, put a couple pieces on the other side of the bread. Sandwich them, and put them individually into ziploc bags. Now whenever you need to pack a quick lunch all you have to do is grab a bag of salad and a sandwich and youve got a perfectly balanced, nutritous meal. Total elapsed time: 45 min or so (not taking into account time at the supermarket of course) for an entire weeks worth of meals.

The idea is to buy in bulk and cook in bulk. Honestly dude, it's not that hard.

Nobody is saying anyone should bring 3-4 full meals to work...at most, you'd bring enough food to consist of 1-2 full meals, but you would just spread it out over the whole day.

And you can bring things that are convenient. Like yogurt, healthy sandwiches on whole wheat bread, pre-sliced pieces of fruit (or a whole piece of fruit if it's something like an apple that you don't need to have peeled to eat) in tupperware containers, pretzels, etc. It wouldn't take long at all to eat things like this on the job. Most people probably wouldn't even need to take a break to eat these things.

Of course, it depends on what kind of job you have. I'm talking about a job that is fairly sedentary, because that's the kind of job most people have.

I'm a full time student with a job as well, and I still manage to eat healthy and put in 5 days a week at the gym.

I realize my example lacks variety. But that's because it's just an example. Don't like the sandwiches? Cook a shit ton of oatmeal instead. Don't like oatmeal? Cook a shit ton of brown rice. Don't like rice? Cook a shit ton of whole grain spaghetti. Don't like spaghetti? Bake 15 potatoes at once. Use your imagination. You can cook all this stuff in bulk and stuff them into ziplocs on your day off, so when you need to get to work and you dont have time a lot of time you just grab the bags from your fridge.

And honestly, eating does not take a lot of time. If you are really strapped for time you can stuff that sandwich and bag of veggies in your mouth, chew as fast as you can and swallow in less than a minute.

All I'm saying is that it is easily unrealistic for a lot of people. If it was easy to eat and enjoy healthy food 6 times a day, perfectly balanced meals and etc. then everyone would be doing it. It's hard to maintain with a lot of lifestyles.

My old job I was constantly going to different clients to install systems, and living in Florida putting food in the car was >not< going to happen. Food wasn't allowed in the office, and I didn't have time to go on 30 minute drives home to eat every 3 hours. Like it or not, this isn't really that out of the ordinary. Back then, I'll admit, I didn't try to eat healthy at all.

Now this isn't the case anymore, and I DO eat 5 meals (sometimes 4) a day but seriously don't deny that something is unrealistic just because you can maintain it. I couldn't imagine eating the same shit everyday for too long, I love eggs and chicken and rice and salad but I'm not eating them everyday. That alone is a little over the top for the average person.

Sure, I may not hit my "true potential" (whatever that fucking is) but I at least I'll be quite close to it while still enjoying it at my convenience, and not having to fit my life around my meals.

Seriously, what do you do when you are hanging out with friends for the night? Stop them and whatever you're doing, pull out a ziploc of boiled eggs and raw spinach and go to town? I'll pass.

I had a friend who used to bring like bags of boiled chicken breasts to the movie theatre and pool halls whenever we went out... it was pretty weird looking over seeing him stanidng there with a que in his hand and half a chicken breast hanging out of his mouth

Oh and as you can see I'm really just playing devils advocate here.

Then make food that doesn't go bad if you leave it in the car for a few hours. And I'm not telling anyone to eat the same thing everyday. I gave PLENTY of examples of different foods you can make in bulk. I could keep going too. If you want, just make some of each so when you open your fridge you'll have five or six different sources of a good carb to choose from.

And I know that it's not the easiest thing in the world. But guess what? Life isn't easy. The easy way is to sit on your ass doing nothing all day and eating junk food. Just because something is hard is a horrible excuse not to do it. Getting a college degree is hard. Working 50+hours a week at a demanding job is hard. And staying in good shape and eating healthy is hard. Bottom line: the OP asked for ways to improve his diet. I gave him one. If he's not willing to put in the time and effort to improve he won't improve. Simple as that.

And yeah, to me it's not that big of a deal if I'm at the coffee shop talking with friends on a saturday night and I pull out a protein bar and an apple.

Well, I know my diet isn't too great, hence why I asked about adding things / taking things away, etc.

>because i really believe a fatty can do all of that aerobic work in one day and then do it again the next

I do all the cardio, I don't really struggle with it considering I used to be in shape and just started eating the wrong things and drinking a lot of beer, beer is where most of my weight gain came from. I've never been a 'typical fatty' that just sat on his ass all day and ate ice cream.

Seeing as I've only moved to USA about a week and a halff ago I haven't got a job yet. Hence why I have time.
