Two things. 1. High dose caffeine, focuses and gives you energy. Also a nice side effect is decreased muscle pain. 2. Trick your muscles: put a large amount of weight on the bar and unrack; feel the weight. Re-rack the weight remove an amount of weight equal to what you want to do and you will be able to do more reps. It'll feel lighter. Also exercise the muscle group that pulls against the one you wish to work (i.e. back if you are doing chest).
P.S. Don't hurt yourself trying to impress some person.
