/fit/, motivate me to go to the gym... I really don't feel like being on the elliptical for over an hour. It just gets so boring. I'd do something else, but none of them seem to work as well as the elliptical for me.

Use the treadmill?

I like that WAY more than the elliptical.

That and lift some weights. Try to find a time before the X BAWKS HUEG guys get there if you feel self conscious about it.

I can't really run for a while, I've never been able to. I would try it otherwise.

From what I've read, being on an Elliptical for more than a half hour is useless.

Explain this.

Well, I'm not really sure why, but from the advice I've seen given on the board and throughout the net, the general consensus is that you don't get any benefit out of being on one for longer than a half hour.

Of course, I'm a /fit/ newfag, so you should check with some others before you take my word for it.

I wouldn't say useless, it gives you some exercise, but really I think running dishes out a lot more punishment on your legs, which (I would think) uses them more.

I can only do non-weight bearing exercise due to a sport-related knee injury (back when I was fit). So elliptical is the thing for me.

Yes, it's boring as crap, but some good tunes usually help.

My (much fitter) friends keep telling me to get involved in spinning classes, and some compound-weight classes (i.e. general aerobics wth weights) but I just stick to the elliptical.

I guess you should ask one of the guys at your gym what else is on offer.

Remember, if you can use ordinary treadmills, you'll burn more calories than the elliptical anyway.

You'd die of a good and proper cancer when you're 70 or 80 instead of a massive heart attack when you're 30.

Not sure if I agree. There's definitely more impact on the treadmill, but on the elliptical I can go at a much higher speed for much longer.

Yes, I also find it easier have a lot of resistance and pushing down somewhat fast is easier than running, and it burns more calories. My shirt is fucking soaked by the end, which I enjoy showing off, but I'd enjoy it more if it didn't take so long.

There are a group of woman who just showed up and they're wearing the shirts and pants that hug and they're on the cardio machines.

Nuff said.
