i was looking at archery stuff and noticed how the bows are all like weighted or something in the front, and they go into some kind of semiturn after the arrow lets fly. why is that? how is this an improved design over regular bows? pic pretty related.

I'm not an archer nor do I know much about it, but I notice the semiturn usually on Japanese archery. I'd be interested to know as well.

The semiturn is to prevent the string from hitting your forearm.
Some archers let the bow drop forward as a kind of following through with the shot.

The "weighted" things are stabilizers that help to keep the bow vibration free and uh stabilized.

If you ask me (traditional archer) IT ALL SUCKS. Olympic archery got nothing to do with real archery.
