Hey /fit/, what is the best supplement to take if you are trying to build lean muscle? I'm 23 abot 5'8" 145 lbs. I got to the gym 3 times a week.

Pic Related I heard it was the best

OP her, plz help
>> Lil Dreamer !UYwMl8CsAs
not necessarily the best, but not the worst either. MM tastes good but is way too expensive for what it is. you can buy shakes that are pretty tasty and gives the same amount of protein per serving for a fraction of the price if you look around.

You can find MM for cheap online. The problem I have with it is its high calorie content and high fat content.
>> Lil Dreamer !UYwMl8CsAs
>>33563
that's why i always looked at MM as a sort of weight gainer because of it's high carbs and fats. and as cheap as MM is online, there are way cheaper alternatives you can find as well.

fuck yeah. in a few weeks I lost almost 2% bodyfat and gained 5 lbs.

yes i know this post doesnt belong, but i gotta brag somewhere

what would you guys suggest, that will build lean muscle but not with all the fat and calories?

ISOPURE

If you want to try Muscle Milk, they actually make a Muscle Milk Lite now, without the high fat content. I personally haven't tried it, but it might be worth looking into.

Try TrueProtein.com. Their pre-made stuff is really good, tastes great, and if you know enough about supplements, you can actually design your own mixes for a pretty reasonable price.

I'm 6'1", 185, so I wouldn't personally use Muscle Milk, but considering your size (I'm assuming a pretty lean build), it might be worth a shot. Bottom line though, for the price, a simple whey protein is your best bet IMO.

www.dpsnutrition.net

Look for Cytosport whey. It comes in a range of flavors, is 85% whey, and is only about $65 for 10lbs including shipping. Win.

cytosport propagana? viral marketing?

Cause man, its called MUSCLE MILK.

MUSCLE. MILK.

Really though, I don't know either. Everyone seems to have heard of it, weaklings and experienced lifters alike. It's like people who think the bench press is the end-all of all lifts.

Because they like spending $4 on a 16oz bottle of supplement instead of taking ten minutes to cook $.50 worth of chicken breast for the same amount of protein.

In b4 "BUT SUPERSUPPLEMAXXOR WHEY PRO-MANCHOWDER-TEIN HAS SEVENTEEN THOUSANDS GRAMS OF PROTEIN AND A HUNDRED GRAMS OF CREATINE PER FIVE OUNCE SERVING!!1 TOO BAD YOU CANT AFFORD IT LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL! ALSO, I DON'T HAVE TIME TO COOK BETWEEN MY JOBS AS A GIGOLO AND ROCKET PILOT."

Seriously, this place reads like a Muscle and Fitness mag sometimes.

I like Muscle Juice.

Best supplement: Water. Fuck you if you think otherwise. All that extra shit is completely useless. Dedication and consistency will give you results, not supplements.
>> Anonymous
>>33724

While I wouldn't call it the best supplement, because protein is definitely beneficiary (assuming you actually work out with some sort of dedication), water is really underestimated when it comes to weightlifting and fitness. It flushes out toxins in your body, aids in weight loss, and probably does a whole load of other shit I don't know about.

If people would just replace their Mountain Dew with water, they'd seriously be surprised with the results.

Protein isn't a supplement. Protein is a macronutrient.
>> Anonymous
>>33742

I was going for whey protein powder specifically there, which is a supplement.

But yes, protein is a macro nutrient.

LEAN MUSCLE? FUCK THAT, I ONLY WANT FATTY MUSCLE.

your post sucks. what do you want, a gainer? a creatine? some random ineffective cocktail of random sups? seriously, wtf do you mean?
>> Old Geezer !YI1jEQivlM

He wants advice from someone who didn't get their nutritional information from the counter clerk at GNC.

OP, don't waste your money on supplements. Chicken, lean steak (stew it to take care of the toughness and lack of flavor), rice, fortified pasta, veggies, cottage cheese, etc. Eat right and you won't have to spend $50 a week on fatty crap.

I second the feelings of OP. I eat ridiculously healthy, work out 3x a week, and have a hell of a hard time keeping weight/gains.
Any advice on gainers, or decent tasting shakes welcome.

And no, sometimes I dont have the fucking time to cook. If Im hungry I want satiation Nao!
>> Anonymous
>>33912
ridiculously healthy, how?

1. are you getting enough protein? do you know, in grams, how much protein you should eat for your bodyweight?
2. do you have enough surplus calories for protein synthesis?
3. are you eating enough fat?

i used to take protein creatine and all that BS.. with my busy schedule i hardly have any time for drinking lumpy milkshakes.. they gave me temporary results, made me feel bloated, and have horrible gas.

im on the jager diet. jager and steak.
>> Anonymous
Muscle milk is probably the best Whey I've had, it tastes great and doesn't get lumpy, but its more expensive than others like Isoflex
>> Anon
>>33923
I know Im eating/drinking at least 160grm. I weight about 145. 5'11". Im a lean fucker.
And by healthy I mean mostly fruits, veggies, complex carbs, 5-6 meals a day, no refined sugars, lean meats and easy on the fat.
Maybe I need moar fat?
Cinnabons are tempting, and have what, over 800 calories each?
>> Anonymous
>>33934
sweet you're playing guitar hero iii.

and you fail diet is prepped for... well, you know.
>> Anonymous
>>34027
maybe on the fat, are you getting any at all? your body needs fat, maybe up to 35% of your daily caloric intake, to be healthy. of course, this is healthy fats i am talking about; stay away from hydrogenated and transfats. if you're going to add fat, use whole eggs, milk, cheese, olive oil etc, not fucking cinnabons. and fish oil.

powerlifters will eat dirty in order to get the calories to grow. you may not want to do that. try reading up on clean bulking. bodybuilding sites should have a wealth of info, the good ones anyway.
>> Anonymous
If you need fat, the best types of fat you can eat are fats from oils and fish.

You can buy pills that are pure flax seed or fish oil and supplement your diet with those.

That is IF you really aren't getting ENOUGH fat.
>> Anonymous
Overpriced and not the best, price aside.

Straight out whey protein concentrate, can be bought for around $15\kg (usd) online, and sure it doesn't taste awesome, and might be a wee bit lumpy, but the stuff's 24g\30g protein, is easily digested and will help get your calorie + protein intake high enough to genuinely build.

Once you've got lots of food and protein in your diet, throw in another shake or 2 a day, ONTOP of 6+ big meals a day, then throw in 5g a day of creatine, and you've made the best use of your supplements.

Check out tnation if you want to learn how to get the most from your body.

>>33924
Fucking seconded. I just bought some of this last weekend and it's really smooth and tastes pretty good too.

But honestly OP, if you want protein you need to start taking RUSSIAN BEAR 5000!!!!!!!

you're refering to omega three. and not quite, you need other dietary sources of different fats for optimum health. the reason you generally need supplements for omega three is because it is no longer found in the average diet, for a whole bunch of reasons.
>> Anonymous
>>34077
any idea anon when this changed? the only omega 3 foods i really know to eat are fish, and some soy, and both annoy me (cost for first, taste for both)
>> Guil
>>34371
Buy fish oil pills, or Udo's Choice Oil ( I use Udo's but it tastes gross to me, so I chase it with my shake and never have to actually taste it)

oh and Tuna isn't costly and can taste fucking awesome

theres like 95000 different brands of whey, where is everyone hearing muscle milk from is my question lol

OP here, every time I go in GNC there pushing the shit out of me. But I used to work in sales so I was think, maybe cytosport or whoever the makes it, is paying GNC to say that.

>>34371
don't eat soy, it's bad for you. there might be some debate about it, but my advice is just don't eat soy.

My understanding is that omega3 levels started declining as agriculture became industrialised and livestock started being raised on monocultures, ie, corn and other stock feeds etc. grass-fed/forraging animals have higher levels of omega3 in their meat due to diet; they collect it from diet in the same way that we do. and then we eat them. hmmmmmmm.
>> Anonymous
>>34457
they're pushing that over their own brand? i use the GNC generic whey stuff, does the job for me
>> Anon
>>34059
>>34058
So how do you know if you are eating enough fat? Do I measure out every time I add olive oil or flax oil to food? Or just do a rough estimate?
>> Anonymous
>>34543
if you're a bodybuilder or serious athlete, yes.

normal people? guess. add some eggs and olive oil to your diet and see how you feel and how you grow.
