Is it possible? Anonymous
Ok, I know we get a ton of posts on /fit/ about supplements. . . but I'm curious if this combination can possibly result in anything other than death.

If a person was to try and live off of only the things posted in the picture could they survive? I'd think the muscle milk would work as meals while the whey could be used after work outs. . . the vitamins could possibly balance out the missing nutrients. . . might be a long shoot but does anyone think this would work?

you'll probably suffer malnutrition sooner or later.
For example, you'd need iron and zinc, calcium, etc.
You can't think of everything.

You need fat to live, I don't know if there's and in muscle milk though.

You would survive. Every aspect of physical fitness would go down the crapper though.

Add in Udo's Choice Oil(Covers all the fat you need, all the GOOD fat. It tastes.. gross to me, but I can't deny it's awesome) and some other Vitamins and sure.

You'd end up being on the shitter 24/7, you'd probably get sick as fuck and if you ate nothing but all that for long enough you'd probably need to be hospitalized

You would still need solid foods, your stomach would go to shit digesting only supplements and it is advised to take most supplements with food.

I live off of supplemental protein shakes, protein bars, and energy snacks for the most part of the day. I also take multi-vitamins and omega-3's to fill in the rest of my bodies needs. Real food is overrated and don't worry about the going to the pooper, you're body will get used to all the supplements.

do it and let us know how it went.

I think it's entirely possible, you would just need some carb and fat sources but that can be supplemented too.

Of course everyone recommends that you eat chicken meat besides whey because meat has protein you can't compensate with whey only, but such protein isn't neccessary.

Many people, me being one of them, ate shit for months if not years, a candy bar + a slice of pizza per day, and we're all pretty much alive, so, go for it.

If you would also take solid supplements like>>42355said, your digestion would adept to it, but if you would only take fluid supplements, diarrhea is inevitable.

Maybe add something like Greens+ for the vegetable nutrients

Living off of real food is always going to be healthier then supplements, but I'm sure you could survive for quite some while off of those, but keep in mind people can survive 30 day water fasts.

Supplements... Supplement... Real food. Its in the name.

You can not survive off Whey Protein. It says so on the label. "Not a meal replacement."

Also, if you only eat protein, you can die of starvation, no matter how much of it you eat. Protein by itself doesnt have enough nutrients.

You need real food. Real carbs. What you're trying to do is take a short cut. You want to cut calories real hard real fast and just take protein and be a man. Fuck that. Short cuts dont go anywhere in fitness.

Just eat responsibly and quit looking for the easy way out.

Back in the 30s the USDA concluded a human being could survive indefinitely on bread, peanut butter, powdered milk and a multivitamin.

What you're suggesting could work. The question is why you would do it.

Bread - Carbohydrates
Peanut Butter - Protein, fat, low carb
Powdered Milk - Protein, Fat, low carb
Multivitamin - Vitamins

OP's Picture:
Whey Protein - Protein
Muscle Milk - Protein
Creatine - nothing of nutritional value
Multivitamin - nutrients

OP is severely lacking in fats and carbohydrates. Mixing the whey protein with milk would add some minor fats, and very minor carbs.

OP diet is not recommended by anyone, even the people who make those products and want you to buy them.

Carbs aren't needed, fats and amino acids are.

People can live extended periods, happily without carbs. Even christian thibeaudau says he's done it himself.

You can survive on low carbs, but you can not flourish. Carbohydrates are the bodies best and most efficient source of energy.

Ketosis diets are going by the way side, as they leave you weak and grumpy. I've tried them, they suck and your muscles hurt. You want carbs in your diet.

this is true. your body can synthesis glucose from fats and proteins, and yet cannot synthesis essential fats and proteins from carbohydrates.

it's not usually considered optimum for endurance athletes, but there seems to be research saying that once the body adapts it actually makes no difference to performance.

Weak and grumpy? I've been going for months now, and feeling great. You've just got to give it 3-4 days without quitting, and don't neglect your veggies, though most of your calories are from fat and protein.

I did a CKD back in 2000 that lasted about six months. I consumed in the neighborhood of 4000 calories daily, keeping below 30g carbs. On Saturdays and Sundays I consumed around 6000 calories, mostly carbs and fat. I suffered none of the side effects associated with ketosis and the weight came off me like never before or since (but I think that also had something to do with 150-minute weight workouts and running 3-5 miles a day.)

I was a 300lb meathead and it shrunk me into a 240lb meathead. Low carb can work if you work it hard AND have the right reaction to ketosis.

By not neglecting veggies you're getting carbs. Not sure how many.

I dont like Ketosis diets, personally. I eat high protein and fairly low carb, but not as low as like Atkins would recommend.

CKD =/= 0 carbs. It's about taking in MINIMAL carbs. Do you have any idea how much sauteed spinach you would have to eat to get an appreciable insulin spike out of it?
>> CrossFitter !!4JAoBaB1PP/

This guy got it>>42871. The only veggies that'll screw up ketosis are the starchy ones like potatoes.

Good choice of spinach as the example. So I'm assuming you avoid carrots, peas, corn, beans, and everything else that isn't a leafy vegetable, right?
4oz carrots = 12grams of carbohydrates.

On diets where people can eat as much veggies as they wants, its not uncommon for someone to consume 1-2lbs of vegetables. Thats 100grams of carbs. Drink milk? A few more carbs.

Some people take their carbs too low, others do try to eliminate them completely, by eating bare minimals, like 10 grams. I think that is stupid.

Just saying, carbs aren't evil.
