Sup /fit/,

Following /fit/'s advice, and the unanimous support for it from everyone I've talked to, I went to GNC today and bought a 5 lb. case of Optimum Nutrition Whey Protein (Cookies & Cream).

The question is, how much to take and when? I'm 175, and lift moderately four times a week. I don't get a whole lot of protein normally, maybe 50g if I'm eating averagely. I was thinking of having a serving mixed with milk before and after the gym, which would be +48g of whey protein. More, less, different times?

After working out is standard, as soon as possible and at least within an hour.

The best bet to make it taste good is to get plain vanilla ice cream, throw in a couple scoops.. throw in a couple cubes of ice (optional, but I love it and extra water never hurts. It also keeps the drink cold longer)
along with some milk it should taste pretty good.

I myself have vanilla that I mix with a banana, vanilla ice cream milk and ice but I'm not sure how the cookies and cream would go with banana.

The cookies and cream may go well with peanut butter do.. but really I can't tell ya, might try just the plain shake and taste some peanut butter with it and see how it mixes?

ya i mix a couple scoops of powder with some milk, a banana, and about a tablespoon of peanut butter, its yummy banana-chocolate-peanut buttery goodness.

I have one in the morning with oatmeal for breakfast, one after my workout along with a piece of fruit, and one before I go to bed.

That's in addition to 2-3 other meals during the day but I try to plan my shakes to be between them.

I just put the powder in a shaker cup with water and shake it then drink it. I don't see the need to mix it with anything else unless you're actually hungry enough to want to make a complete meal out of it.

Aww dude! You should have ordered from bodybuilding.com it's something like $20 bucks cheaper. And cookies and cream is the worst flavor in my opinion.
One serving right before and right after work outs are key. It's best to have it plain, because you don't want to slow down absorption. Also right after work outs have some fast burning carbs to replenish energy and glycogen levels.

In about 4-5 days.

lol plus 20$ s/h

6 bucks, besides you most likely end up ordering more than just one thing at a time. And GNC charges 20 bucks for a discount card.

I've got the same ON whey (but double chocolate), and I take a scoop and a half + milk after working out. I'm also 6'3" and 185 and lift about 4-5 days moderately too.

I could stand to start a cutting phase, but I still want some more muscles first.

I also take it right after working out. I probably eat about the same amount of protein, some days more and some days less.

15 minutes to an hour after exercising and it will have the most benefit, especially if paired with a more complex protein, such as food like milk or raw eggs. Unfortunately, it tastes like shit. When I used to go in the evening, I would have some with milk, some fresh banana and a raw egg. In morning before work when I didn't have any tools like a blender, just throw it down and have a banana after.

Don't have before workout. It will sit it your stomach and feel terrible, you might even vomit it back up.

Have it 15 minutes after the weights or during the time of the day when you have the least protein, say between breakfast and lunch, or in the evening after work.
