Hey /fit/,

Probably a stupid question, but could someone please explain to me why you're not supposed to do weights and cardio in the same session?

I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

the only thing i could think of is that it would be bad on your joints (?) i see people speed walk with 5lbs in each hand all the time...

The only reason is doing cardio first will impair your performance lifting weights after. Its fine to do weights then finish off with some cardio.

So basically it is possible to build muscle and burn fat effectively in a single session?

yes but you best be eating right

This is the OP and I'm thinking the same as you.

I never did cardio in my weight training sessions because I thought it'd undo all my hard work, so I just used to do a week of weights and a week of cardio.

Now I know I can do both in the same session effectively, I'll start doing that.

It's still not recommended, as you may over train yourself. You'd be better off lifting one day, then HIIT the next.

In theory. The lifting will burn through your glycogen allowing you to start burning fat as an energy source faster during cardio.

Is a bad-ass site you will probably benefit from.

On some days I will do cardio after lifting. But then I usually don't work out the next day, to avoid overtraining.
