i've got strep throat and no insurance to buy meds.

WHAT DO I DO
Its pretty bad right now, and its spreading to my right ear :(

pic almost related, its not me but damn close
>> Anonymous

Call all your known family members to see if any of them are in the medical field. Maybe one of them can give you a prescription of antibiotics.
>> Anonymous
Don't know how you self diagnosed because other throat infections/viruses causes the white spots to appear also. However, strep throat can sometimes spread to the ear.

If you don't get antibiotics, you could be in serious trouble, i.e., scarlet fever/blindness/etc.
>> OP
Well, I dont know anyone in the medical area.

And, I've had this before like 3 years ago it was pretty bad, i couldnt lay on my right side or drink/eat because of the pain, it took me like 2 weeks WITH meds to get over it

health care is a right, the government is supposed to provide protection for their citizens. health care is protecting you from death by disease as much as an army protects you from death by an invading power.

every single western civilized democracy on earth provides its citizens with universal health care, with the exception of the USA.

we pay more per capita than any other nation on earth, yet there are millions of uninsured citizens, and our birth death rate is 30-something, down on the list next to 3rd world nations.

The more efficient the system is, the less money gets sucked into it. The less greedy pharmaceutical and insurance conglomerates that get their hands on the cash we pay for our health, the better.

That said, a healthy populace begins with a well-educated populace. Knowing exactly what a Big Mac will do to your arteries aids you quite a bit in your decision not to eat one.

>>439026
Have you been paying attention AT ALL to the state of our veteran's care programs?
>> Anonymous
>>439061
Also, effectively treating people when they have a health issue right away actually saves money when compared to the system we have now, in which people basically only get treated when they can afford it. Then, when they have some serious shit going on, and they still can't afford it, the rest of us citizens get our premiums jacked up as a result of their ER care.
>> Anonymous
>>439061
>>439064
And you imagine socialist programs are "efficient" in some way?
I really enjoy waiting 2 hours every time i want to see my doctor because they are perpetually behind schedule.

Also the one big thing all you commies ignore. Is that private industry fosters INNOVATION AND NEW TECHNOLOGY AND GROWTH.

Money doesn't get "sucked into" the health industry because IT PROVIDES A PRODUCT.
The solution is to remove needless regulation driving up the costs of doctors and to break the monopoly that pharmaceutical companies have.

America spends more on R&D then the whole world combined.

>> Anonymous
>>439070
I was speaking of fiscal efficiency. You are correct to point out the issue of incentive for people to become doctors. A balance needs to be struck, of course.

There are things that need to be adjusted to save money: tort reform, ending monopoly in the pharmaceutical market, etc. But the system as we have it now places the quality of health care in a secondary position to profit margins. There's a product all right, and I firmly believe that our collective diet is taxing it to the breaking point, but that doesn't change the fact that the product could be a great deal better.

Health care as it stand right now is limited in scope to what is profitable. So long as that is the case, we will never have an effective system in this country.

America is up there in terms of R&D/GDP, but there are nordic countries above us. This is beside the point in any event.
>> Anonymous
>>439120
Call me when we're 100% white with a huge percentage of our GDP coming from highly taxed primary industry exports like oil and fish and stuff like that.

>A balance needs to be struck, of course.
The free market does that on it's own. The problem with all government handouts, is they take a very small struggling minority who genuinely need the hand outs to live into a vast non-working underclass.

Of course you could solve that problem with regular reform and proper, sane management of the system, not just using it as a gimmick to buy votes. And as long as it remains a small proportion of the budget and GDP i don't really have a problem.
>> Anonymous
>>438910
I don't know where you live, but in the USA, health care is not a right. The government is not supposed to provide protection for its citizens; it is supposed to protect the civil liberties of its citizens. Invading powers threaten the liberty of citizens. Disease, plague, and pestilence do not, as citizens are free to seek out treatment for such things as they please.

That being said, it is certainly the humane thing for the government to provide care for its citizens, but doing so infringes upon the liberty of citizens by forcefully appropriating money from them to pay for said care.

It is unfortunate (in some respects), but in America, health care IS a business, just like everything else. The role of government is to protect a citizen's liberties; it is the job of the citizens to look out for their fellow citizens and be humane. If you care about people who aren't able to care for themselves, then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. Volunteer. Be proactive. You cannot force people to be humane and moral if they don't want to be, especially when you are discussing personal matters that don't concern them in any way. I shouldn't have to pay for someone else's mistakes if I don't want to; I should want to because its the humane thing to do, but if i don't feel like paying for someone else's STDs, I don't believe I should be forced to do so.

OP, find a free clinic. Go to it. You will probably have to wait for hours, but it beats dying. Go to a doctor and explain your situation; many doctors will help you out and allow you to pay over time, or may not even charge you at all. I know because my father was a doctor, and many of his patients were often unable to pay, but he would treat them anyways (because it was the humane thing to do). It shouldn't be too expensive though. And if it is, you can find the money some way or another. Hell, you could beg on the streets and probably get enough money in a day or two.

Whatever you do, GO SEE SOMEONE. DO NOT LET THIS GO UNTREATED. YOU COULD DIE.
