dear /fit/, i'm a fat loser (5'5, 190 pounds) who's really out of shape and looking to lose weight because of a recently started relationship.

the problem is, i know that i need to limit my diet and exercise regularly, which i now have the motivation to do, but i become winded after maybe 5 minutes of moderate jogging. i'm wondering how i should build up my endurance so i can be less of a failure.

do i just have to keep jogging every day and slowly raise my limit? are there any other exercises besides running (inb4 squatz) i should do?

Do something challenging every day. If you're only operating within your comfort zone, you're not advancing.

Push ups and sit ups until you can't do them anymore, 3 days a week. Run 2 other days a week and chill 2 days off. Simple.

alright so i went jogging today, and after 30 minutes of alternating 5 minutes jogging with 5 minutes walking, my stomach started hurting. is this normal? (no - they weren't sharp pains like cramps, it was just sort of a dull ache like you ate something bad).

Possibly your oblique or abdominal muscles. Soreness there is normal if you are out of shape. You might be wearing bad shoes or running on particularly hard terrain (concrete or dirt). Also, how soon after eating did you jog?

If you havent worked out in a long while then yes it's normal. When I first started football I was on the verge of puking during my entire first day of double sessions.

Drink more water and they'll go away tomorrow. If you want to improve then you should to run every single day or every other day until you aren't winded before your muscles give out. It will take some time but you can do it.

I've seen this before, it's nothing too serious. You may have eaten too much/too little, or the wrong thing before going jogging. You may also just be getting used to the exercise.

I mean, there's always the chance it's something more serious, but I severely doubt it.

Go drink water, but don't drown yourself in it. Just enough to quench your thirst.

In response to one of your first questions, running has always worked best for my overall musuclar tone, but if you want to succeed, you should do a lot of sit-ups and push-ups (correctly), and when you start feeling better or more comfortable with your work-out, up the ante a bit. At least, until you've reached your goal weight or body fat percentage.
