/fit/,
when I try to do sit ups, my back hurts instead of, I guess, my stomach area.

WTF am I doing wrong?

Pic unrelated

I disagree, if you cannot feel the abs working already its good to touch base with a back support so you are able to go all out in finding the flex in your abs

that's normal, since sit-ups do jackshit to your abs.
do crunches.

...I agree. As you get into shape, you will feel it particularly bad in you back muscles. As you build strength, you won't have to strain your back and you'll really feel it in the abs. But situps are too much motion. Do crunches (especially crunches with your legs out as if you're riding a bicycle) and just focus as much as you can on your abs.

alot of bad advice here, obviously when ur back hurts doing sit-ups then stop and do something to get ur lower back in shape, and switch to crunches, everyone knows sit-ups are shit for your back in the long run anyways. so just get some lower back excersises in ur routine and do crunches before your back mans up.

even putting your hands under your ass is a huge help
