Good or bad?

Speaking from experience, I actually did lose 30lbs on this, but I did use the arcade version, which means it did cost a lot in the long run. (Barely used home version due to it rumbling the house on heavy mode)

Any other weeaboos have success with DDR?

i suck too bad at that game to even walk near it

I think it can be good to an extent, after all you're getting a good cardio workout. On the other hand it can be hard on you if you're stupid when you play. I knew one guy who was crazy good at it but played sort of hunched over, so he fucked his back up.

tl;dr not bad if you have good posture.

OP here, /fat/ties will love this part:

No change in diet.

It all depends on if you play on the easiest mode or if you play the hardest songs in the game. I wouldnt rely on it until you can reach heavy mode, passing up to 8s.

Personally, I play mostly the hardest songs in the game, and dont really have any trouble, and it works just fine for me.

THE HUNCHBACK THE HUNCHBACK

STOP BEFORE YOU GET A HEARTATTACK.

DDR is great if you play well enough to get a good workout out of it. Playing on Beginner won't burn calories. Playing 8-10s on Heavy will.

I taped my soft pad that came with the xbox version down to wood and use it for stepmania.
problem is I'm on second floor and it like rumbles alot when I play.

Good

DDR is good as a supplement if you can't get out and jog or get to the gym. You need to play very intense Heavy songs to get a good workout. I wouldn't use it as my main cardio, though

I was worried my fat ass might break this thing, then I heard they were building them out of old gameboys and I knew it could be used by elephants safely.

I can pass every song on the hardest mode (well have passed, there's a few I'd rather never do again)

I lost 20 lbs after playing it for 6 years irregularly.

I prefer ITG since it makes you use your hands, mines are fun, mods are better, and Doubles is more intuitive. You don't need to book flights across the Atlantic ocean to hit the next arrow, it takes transitioning into account most of the time.

I have NOT beaten every song on the hardest mode of ITG :(

Anything that gets you moving is good. Srsly.

DDR is great, but don't expect to get FUKKEN RIPPED with it.

i lost 80lbs playing DDR while eating disgusting gross junk food.
which i also now regret.
but anyway, yeah.
i played at the arcade, i dislike playing at home.

Well, obviously I'm suggesting that heavy is a necessity to this. I didn't see much of a difference until at least the 7-footer heavy songs, and nothing significant happened until a few months of 8-9 foot heavy songs (never could do a 10 footer save for Bag)

I couldn't lose weight with this, I only gained leg muscle, I don't understand why. I'm quite heavy too, and my thighs are a serious problem area.

I love using DDR as a workout, its just I've slacked off so much now I can barely make it through 5 Heavy Songs.

How the fuck do I get started with this? I have a pad and StepMania, but I can't for the life of me do anything more than the easiest songs on the fucking planet.

Try working your way up to them. Or pushing yourself to do the harder ones. Thats how I ended up finally playing heavy songs.

how many feet?
play every day and you will see improvement.

If you can, learn the rhythm (not necessarily the step patterns... I never could do that either, such as the people who it fucking backwards or blindfolded) to a song on the keyboard if you're using stepmania, then apply that knowledge to the actual pad as much as possible. I found that knowing how a song went in terms of step timing helped considerably in the beginning. Put on the ticker if you need to, but keep it off when actually using the pad, it only fucks you up if anything.

I went to heavy (Granted, not the actual level of heavy that I can do now, but I started to) in about 4-6 weeks after starting, but this was with serious dedication every week... It helps that I worked at an amusement park.

Isn't DDR made up of spurts of exercise too short and mild to constitute a proper workout?
>> Lil Dreamer !3GqYIJ3Obs!!FIK

the higher difficulties can jack up your heart rate pretty high. and HIIT is based off of spurts of exercise.

Does it get so high as to actually constitute HIIT?
>> Lil Dreamer !3GqYIJ3Obs!!FIK
>>6825
probably not, since i've tried both and HIIT kicked my ass more than DDR ever did on Max 300. still tho' it's a good alternative for beginners trying to lose weight.
>> maggiekarp !zZAADmFDGM
I used to play it every day, 6-7 steps, then the owner of the game systems moved out and I haven't played it since.

...How much does a soft pad and a copy of DDR Max cost, anyway?
>> Cameron
I still can't get past Light to be honest. I loved Cartoon Heroes, Butterfly and a few others I can't seem to remember the name of.
>> maggiekarp !zZAADmFDGM
I think the secret to getting to higher levels is to just play them and fail until you and your feet have memorized the steps.

That's why you see folks in the tournaments able to do higher-level songs while switching places and turning themselves away from the screen, I think. Or the same people able to do one 9-step song (might go higher, it's been a while) but who fail at 6-steppers if they haven't tried them yet.

I used to play this game 4-8 hours a day. Playing heavy for that long everyday WILL make you loose weight, lol. Good luck.
>> Anonymous
it's all a stamina issue for me.

when I first started playing I got up to 7 and some 8's within 3 weeks and could play for long periods of time.

Recently I tried going back to it and am still able to do the same songs but I get exhausted way to fast and my steps became a little clumsier.
