So I need to start working out. I'm not overweight, I'm not underweight, I'm just... I lack definition. I'd be disappointed when I got me back to my place and I took off my shirt. I've been thinking of doing HIIT, but I don't know if I can really trust myself to hold to a daily regimen... so I've been looking into classes and things I could do to get myself into shape with a group to whom I'd feel responsible.

Pic related, I have some friends who do Tae Kwon Do/Hae Dong Kum Do/Cardio Kickboxing (They have Fridays and Sundays free), they want me to join in.

Closest Silat place is on the other side of the city. Shaolin is nearby-ish, though...

Anything else? Not necessarily a martial art, anything will do.

while I feel most karate is bullshit. I guess I point you in the direction of a more physical form of Koren martial art.

if you want to be in shape that tae kwon do may help. of course you get out of it what you put into it. if you want more of a self defense out of it i would stay away for tae kwon do and look for a different martial art.

No, grab yourself a plane ticket to Thailand, and get to work in a muay thai camp. The starvation and the constant, endless hardcore workout will put definition on your body. As a byproduct, you might learn a few tricks like a round house kick.

Half the reason I'm against Tae Kwon Do is that I've been to the classes and seen what they do and it doesn't look like a very strenuous workout. Hell, I joined in on one about a week ago and didn't break a sweat after an hour and a half. Tang Soo Do is better?

This is a good idea.

Also, lift weights. If you want definition, dont lift too heavy and do a fuckton of cardio.
For example, What i do is this

1. Full cardio day about 1 hour, running and walking.
2. First half hour is spent on my upper body strength, and last hour is running/walking.

Rinse, Repeat. Running for me has taken care of my lower body, due to the fact that i run about 5-6 miles on my full cardio day. The upper body strength doesn't move too fast, because as well as running, i dont do TOO much of it.
Try this shit out. As for your diet, for the love of god read and download this

this helps a fuckton with dieting.

It really depends on the Dojo you go to I guess. that being said, they do hold mix tournaments from time to time, and the Tang soo do guys are almost always faster, and look to be in better shape.

That's helpful. I live a few minutes away from a Tang Soo Do place apparently, I'll check that out and then look into Shaolin.

I'll try to take up cardio and some lifting independently, as well. if I spend money on some weights, I should stick to a regimen for at least a little while.

martial arts fag here. I've got a BB in TKD (and some other stuff nobody cares about), and it's all about the dojang you join. Some will give you a good work out, some won't. Try to find one that has adults your age, and won't make you sign a lengthy contract. Also, ask about testing fees. A lot of people run their dojangs like gyms.

The one my friends go to requires something like $550 a year just to keep your black belt -- I think more if you want to test for a higher degree.

That alone is enough to turn me off -- not to mention the black belts that even I (a total martial arts noob) can tell have no fucking form or discipline in their movements. Fucking ridiculous.

But seriously, is that kind of charge normal?
