I'm 190 lbs(86.36 kg?) and 66 in(167.64 cm), which is a BMI of roughly 30.76 or so. That's obese. It's borderline, sure, whatever, but it's obese. I want to start losing weight quickly and I want to do it on the cheap, meaning running won't happen at the gym. I don't have lots of time during the day( so I'll be doing a lot of this at night), and I don't much like paying for a membership to something that ought, by definition, to be a long-term thing.

Right now I'm only interest in losing weight. I'm not ridiculously strong, but I get by without much trouble, so I'm not looking to get stronger for any particular thing. I'll probably buy weights when I want to bulk up, but until then slimming down is my goal.

Okay, that said... has anyone been in a similar situation and gotten success with any particular regiment? I did some exercise when I was younger, but nothing seemed to stick with me. I think if I get into a regular habit I should be in good shape( no pun intended) to keep it up.

Advice, /fit/? I don't really know where to start here...

Oh... Thanks in advance for any advice you guys might have.

OP here. Sorry, I re-read that first bit and I want to stress that I want to get into the motions of losing weight as soon as possible. I don't expect to see results for weeks or even months, and I'm fine with that. I just want to get started as soon as possible so that I can at least finish my day knowing that I'm doing something about my weight.

Walk for 40 minutes every night, restrict calories to 2400ish. You'll see results fast, and after about three days the calorie restriction will help you start eating better food. A supersized bigmac meal would be alarmingly close to 1800 calories for example. Do not run or even jog, you'll mess up your knees. If running is out because of the weather, jumproping/skiprope is fine too.

ITT: give me a fast, easy, cheap solution to weight loss.

it does not exist. if you're not willing to put the effort in, you are fucked.

if you really want to lose weight it wouldn't come along with all these conditions of yours like "i won't join a gym" and "it has to take up little time of my own"

the harsh reality is there is no magical and easy way to get in shape. you need to do the cardio, you need to do some weight training.

i lost 60 pounds in 3 months and gained a decent amount of muscle. i was at the gym TWICE as a day for an hour, once to lift weights and once just to run. i ate very clean and drank at least a gallon of water a day.

there is no secret to weight loss, exercising and eat healthy.

The cool thing about being fat is it comes off faster than you would think, IF, you eat better. No sugar, no junk food, less food in general. Eat your steak and not your potatoes is an old russian concept for losing weight.

Lean muscle uses more calories so purchasing or using some kind of weight to exercise would actually be advisible seeing as in the beginning it's going to discouraging if you can only run a quarter mile or less at a time. You will want an alternative. You could get a bag of sand, a fucking sack of bricks, it doesn't matter. Google sandbag training and have a blast.

The simplest way to get cardio is running. Starting out you will want to run-walk which essentially is walk for a bit run until you can't stand it walk some more and run when you get your breath again. You repeat this process until your will to live sinks looooowwwww. You have to force yourself to do this shit everyday. In the beginning your muscles/tendons/joints may not appreciate it so if you're feeling excess stress on your knees or joints you can give it a day or two but tbh if it keeps up just keep going. A lot of people have persistent ITB problems and other gayshit. My physician advised me to run through it and it would strengthen up. I am not saying be a hero here, the first few weeks your body is going to be like "wtf" so use caution but don't use excuses.

Bottomline is don't complicate things. You may not be an expert out of the gate but it beats being the motherfucker who hasn't left the gate.

If you had read my post( and then my subsequent reply) you would see that I made it abundantly clear that I don't expect anything to be fast( unless several weeks or months is considered rushing it), and I never expected any of this to be easy, but I'd sure as hell hate to start doing exercises that don't actually contribute to weight-loss just because I see other people doing it and I don't know what's what.

As for cheap, yeah, I'll admit that I'm looking for something that's ideally free. I don't believe that there's such a lifestyle that actually requires buying a treadmill or a gym membership unless you're self-conscious, which is all in your mind. If weight-lifting is a necessary part of weight-loss, then I'll pursue it, but I just don't take stock in the idea that one necessarily has to be at a gym to lose any weight. I can't stress enough that I understand how difficult this will likely be, and especially discouraging, but I'm not going to give up after a week of jogging and still weighing 189+ lbs. I'm just relying more on personal endurance and resolve to keep up this intended routine than the potential guilt of "wasting" my membership if I don't go to the gym one day.

Thanks for the tips. I don't find myself eating meals that often, but I can't be sure. I'm fairly positive that I'm eating less than 2400 calories per day( salad during lunch if anything and usually some rice, soup, meat for dinner). I never eat fast food( makes me sick just thinking about it), and I stopped drinking soda lately, so I'll probably find myself with more energy on a regular basis.
I'll try walking, but do you really think that jogging will be deleterious to my knees? I used to jog several miles a day and I weighed about the same amount( although I obviously lost weight during that time).

Thanks for both of your advice. Even though I seem to have argued at>>24540
I want to note that I understand how difficult it will be to force myself to stick to this regimen at first.

Thanks for the tips. I might buy/borrow some weights or just use old textbooks or something when I'm around the house, and I'll make sure to cut down with regard to rice and bread. I've heard a lot of nasty stuff about cutting carbs out entirely, so I don't plan on that, but I'll definitely be limiting it.

OP here. /fit/ doesn't seem to move TOO quickly, so I'll hope that the thread is still here when I come back. I'm about to head out to the nearest 24-hour store and pick up a few things, but I just thought I'd share a little Google failure in course-plotting.

Tip: I can't walk through golf clubs and other private properties to get to the rough location of my destination. Lol...

Anyway, thanks for the advice. I guess in the end it was mostly "stick to the plan and don't let up, but it's more influential when other people tell me the same thing because it hammers it in. Just like a doctor could tell me what I thought was wrong with me and I'd be relieved even though I could have guessed and treated it myself.

That's a bad analogy... I hope it makes sense... Well, thanks again.

okay then, weight training is there to help prevent you from losing muscle mass on a caloric deficit. if you lose muscle you lose lean mass, lean mass burns calories. burned calories mean less fat. therefore weight training will greatly assist you in weight loss.

losing a lot of muscle mass along with fat will just lead to you being "skinny fat", you'll look trim in clothes but naked you'll still look pudgy and soft.

Ah, that's true. Sorry for disagreeing with you about that, then... I guess I'm not thinking.

I'll see what I can find around the house that'll make for good weights, and if nothing seems viable I'll just suck it up and buy some weights or( as much as I hate the idea) get a gym membership and use those weights. It's not an issue of wanting to do things late at night, it's more that I'm a student and I can't just move stuff around, so ideally I'd have a night gym( like 24-hour fitness) and be allowed to go there at night, when I still have energy but also happen to have time on my hands. I wouldn't mind buying some introductory weights if they're not too expensive, but obviously if I'm looking to my textbooks, money is important to me, heh.

also (this is the guy who lost 60 lbs in 3 months etc etc)

i was fucking MISERABLE at the gym when i first started going (this was before that 3 months) i was going with a friend who was in much better shape and i was pretty much throwing up every time i was there. It was too much for me because of my extremely sedentary lifestyle.

because i lost so much weight in a short period of time i got A LOT of questions from people and they were all looking for some secret i learned to do it, and were all disappointed when i explained the effort required. i got sick of the attitude people had towards the whole thing, and realized most people want nothing to do with the effort that it requires to get in shape, so i got very skeptical of anyone who asks for advice like you did.

I went from 105 kg to 72 in about a year. My tip: eat less, dont include junk food in your diet. Thats just about everything needed. At my last job all that was available for lunch were Mc Donalds, Burger King and a Kebap joint. As i lost my job i had the time to buy my food at a supermarket. I didnt eat a lot less, i didnt start buying "healthy" food. I just looked for convenience stuff that was filling with less calories. No stupid low-carb, low-fat, low-something, pineapple-cabbage-whatever is fad of the day diet. Just things like canned chilli, bread and pre-made tuna salad, spaghetti Napoli. Not even much greens involved, just 1 piece of fruit a day, an apple, a pear, a mango or a bunch of berries. Leave out chips and chocolate and you are bound to loose weight.
Recently i have taken up going to the gym, mainly due to having a free membership coming with my new job and start gaining weight again, but the good sort now, muscles.

Heh, sorry for reacting so aggressively. I can understand that. I can assure you that I'm looking for no easy way out. I expect to want to quit very very much on several occasions, but to be honest I just can't live this lifestyle anymore. I have too much energy at the end of the day just wasted staying up all night, I'm obese, I don't have very much real active energy during the day, and I'm just not as "alive" during the day in general. I need to get on this regimen more than I want to.

check out www.johnstonefitness.com the forums are free (don't even have to sign up to view them, i don't think) and it has a shit load of information and links to helpful stuff. just from reading it day to day i'd get motivation to get out an exercise.

Oh, something i forgot, switch sodas to light products. Or watered down fruit juice.

Light products?
>> Apollo Angelfist
What did it for me was cut out anything with high fructose corn syrup in it. Also drink massive amounts of water, like you should be sick of water by the time u lose some weight. Another thing i did was run every mornig for one mile...just one, no matter how long it takes one mile everyday (skip out maybe one day of the week). Don't eat anything 3 hours before you go to sleep. some good weight loss drinks i had was green tea with a little bit of cayenne pepper in it (cayenne pepper will increase your metabolism. less breads and starchy stuff fish is real healthy and white meat and obviously no fast food.

>>24612
Wait, white meat is okay?
>> Apollo Angelfist
yup. chicken, turkey, etc is OK but if u can have greens with it and brown rice. some red meats are actually good for you with protein its just that with most red meats the fat-protein ratio is worse than than the white meats (red meat good protein-higher fat, White meat little fat-high protein)

All right, OP checking in again, heh. I walked about 4.75 miles earlier today and it seemed easy enough. Not sore, not feeling like shit, but we'll see when the excitement of actually taking responsibility for my health wears off. If I still feel fine with it after several days, I think that might be my daily walk/jog.

I'm also cutting down to one soda per week for a few weeks, then cutting myself off entirely. Does anyone know if there are any caffeinated beverages that one can drink that might be *less unhealthy* than sodas and carbonated beverages?

Coffee?! I was under the impression that coffee was terrible for you.

And is tea still any good for me if I have it with a spoonful( or two...( or three sometimes)) in it?

Is any kind of tea okay, or should I stick to green/Earl Grey/*** tea?
