Smoking anything would be worse for you.
Beer will dehydrate you some which you don't need. But.. beer is also an excellent recovery drink! It has a lot of sugars and carbs in it. If you want to have a beer or two it won't kill you. Just don't get shitfaced, though.
When you finish the race, drink a beer and eat a peanut butter and banana sandwich. Your body will thank you.
