Are you planning on swimming for four hours? 200 x 50 m (if it is a 25 m pool) = 10k meters you retard

wow no need to say retard.. I wasnt sure.. what do you recomment I do? I can spend 1-2 hours at the pool.. well I can fit that much time into my schedule, what sort of goals should i make for that time limit?

your swimming should be broken down into sets of distance and sprints. example:
500 meters 30 seconds rest
500 meters pull 30 seconds rest
500 meters kick, 30 seconds rest
50 meters very easy
4x25 meters all out sprints 45 seconds rest
50 meters very easy
4x25 meters all out sprints 45 seconds rest
cooldown, 200 meters moderate
etc...
total: 2000 meters

don't just swim nonstop the whole time. For one reason, it can get pretty boring. The second is that your body has no time to rest and recover. You need some rest time so you can catch your breath and keep giving it your all. You also wont get much out of your workout, since you'll most likely just keep it at a moderate to slow pace the whole time, instead of pushing yourself to get faster. It's not necessarily like running where you go for an hour nonstop. At least, if you don't want to lose any weight you can do it this way.

Cant you do HIIT with swimming?

I never have, but I imagine you can. But it would be kind of hard to keep track of time when you're swimming. I imagine counting down 30 seconds would distract yourself from giving it your all. You also have to worry about walls and your flip turns.

I think it's pretty much why swimmers break up the workouts to timed sets, or sets with certain amount of rest times. I'm usually counting the number of laps I'm doing in my head, not how much time has elapsed.

Would doing HIIT in the pool be like using a flamethrower at a tub of butter?

I weigh 270 pounds(6'1) and I try swimming, but I get out of breath by the time I get to like 25% of the pool.

An honest question,

are squats beneficial to swimmming?
>> Anonymous
>>332880
A little bit i guess. But pull ups would do you more good for swimming.

On one lap?

As a competitive swimmer of 10+ years, I can say with confidence that SQUATZ are indeed good for swimming.

If you have stong legs you may find that doing flutter kick (the regular kind that you do with freestyle and backstroke) works better.

But probably the most important muscle group for swimming is having a strong core. If you have a strong core the other muscle groups operate most efficiently in the pool through good form & technique.

You have to do a lot of swimming. You have to do a lot of intervals. You have to pay much more attention to what you're doing during a swimming workout than a run. Look up swimming workouts on google for examples.

Also swimming is awesome and is the best exercise/sport ever.

You also need some beastly arms bra, don't forget that.

It's why swimmers usually have beefy shoulders.

SQUATZ are actually good for running too. I was reading an article of a study that said that runners increased their speed by doing squats.

Wait a second, so you're telling me that doing an excercise that greatly strengthens your legs... will help your running?

I call bullshit.
