sup fit,
Ive been running pretty regularly for about 8 months. I have never been good with timing my breathing while running (I know that sounds retarded). Any tips?

Don't think about it as timing per se, but more about pacing. Steady, full deep breaths followed by a full exhale. You can even time it alone to your pace....though I prefer music (because the rhythm of the music I listen to usually affects my pace anyhow.)

A great, great technique that I've noticed is to inhale an exhale in a cadence of four steps.

Inhale as your taking four steps; exhale as you're taking four steps.

This really, really put up my endurance and it's pretty cool how you can change the cadence to your comfort.

For example, I use the "in, in, out, in" "out out, in, out" cadence sometimes when I feel really, really tired.

i like in in out out. for a 4 step cadence. Thats breathing in hard with the nose and steady with the mouth.

Recently I started taking yoga. I went running a couple hours after the first class, and I noticed that the exercises that stretched the core muscles could be used while running to regulate my breathing with pretty impressive effectiveness.

So I guess maybe try doing some core muscle exercises?

How weird. My body just naturally accepts a rhythm - I breathe in for two steps, out for two steps. The only time I fuck up is when my body tries to match the pace of the person next to me... fucking hate running too close to people.

You guys seriously breathe in through your nose when running? Wow.

OP here,

Yea, I cant seem to feel like I'm getting enough air in through my nose ever.

Yes, they are weird. If you're not breathing consciously you will automatically breathe in the most efficient manner. The body knows what it's doing. I never try to control my breathing just breathe how I feel like, let it fluctuate.

Actually, I was taught at a very young age to breath in through my nose and out through my mouth. Now it is a second nature thing. I go running every other day and I couldn't tell you how I breath...I just know it's in through my nose and out through my mouth...I guess it's something to do with the hairs in your nose and the mucus...I guess it filters the air better than if you breath in through your nose.
