Quickie question:

What's the maximum number of days per week you can work out without causing overtraining?

I'm thinking of moving my workout up to six days per week, with an off day on my regular day off from work.

So long as you change things up, your 6 day plan will be ok. Over-training is primarily from overdoing one kind of workout.

Forgot to add:

I currently alternate from a cardio/weight lifting mix and a pure cardio workout, followed with an off day. That gives me roughly 72 hours between similar workouts.

Entirely dependant on you, your physical condition, and the types of workouts you have been doing already

You MUST build up GPP if you're going to train intensively six days a week.

just make sure to take a week off every 3 months to let your body recharge from all the load you're putting on it.

What about alternating major muscle groups? Work my arms one day, work legs the next while arms rest. Day 3, rest legs, work arms, etc.

Since that ultimately would be changing it up, again you'd likely be fine.

But if you feel any unnusual strain-- even just SLIGHTLY different than normal workout strain-- cut back.

Depends on how hard you're working your muscles, if you're still sore like 10 hours before you plan on working out.. I wouldn't

I've been taking creatine monohydrate to help with muscle recovery, so muscle soreness hasn't been a real problem yet.

I'm wanting to reduce rest days to one per week because it seems that whenever I take a full day to rest, I lose some of my progress.

I'm not extremely fit, but I'm not completely unfit either. I've got plenty of energy to burn off before I get worn out.

But I do have trouble getting enough food in my diet. Does eating too little increase body fat percentage even though you don't eat enough to reach your resting metabolism (which is 2000 calories for me)? I currently exercise 4-5 days a week.
