You need more than one gear speed for efficiency. Try going twenty miles on a single speed up and down hills, it will kill your muscles and make you lose time and energy. I can commute ten miles on my bike(a cheap but pretty freaking great Giant OCR3 650 dollars american but you get such a nice road bike for that)in about 30 minutes going up some steep hills. I also see all these stupid one speed fags wearing no helmets and disobeying traffic rules very frequently, they also never use hand signals, nor do they ever put on battery operated safety lights at night. I swear to god if I could legally get away with shooting you fags I would do it, you guys really are a menace to the commuting populace with your lack of respect to the road rules and to your own safety.

Looks like you never tried commuting in a single speed bicycle, it's not that hard. I do it, and I live in hilly California.

Looks like you are using a low to low medium gear dipshit. I can get my bike to a speed of 25mph level and 50mph and above going down hill.

Also I commute with a back pack that weighs ten to fifteen pounds.

This fucking single speed bike thing is for people who are so cheap they don't care to even think of spending money on safety. It is a fad that tries to sell an image. Guess what they are not as good, as fast, or as efficient as real multispeed road racing bikes and never will be unless you become a fucking superhuman.

For 650 dollars you can get a brand new multispeed roadbike that will last you ten to 20 years and will give you a high quality riding experience.

How does having a single speed make my bicycle less safer?
Btw my bike isn't a fixed.

You single speed bikers usually don't(never from what I have seen) wear helmets or have safety lights. Also pedal manipulation and the occasional complete lack of effective brakes. Lack of fine control of the bike and yourself overall.

Also your bike is less safe BECAUSE YOU CAN'T EFFECTIVELY KEEP UP WITH ROAD TRAFFIC MOVING AT 25MPH ON LEVEL GROUND AND YOUR BRAKES ARE PROBABLY CRAP.

Now fuck off and die in a ditch that you couldn't avoid.

Oh, well I have proper safety equipment.
And I don't commute in high traffic areas.
