Push Presses? Anonymous
Yo /fit/,

A quick question about push presses. I'm on the stronglifts programme, and have been incorporating the power clean into my standing press for some time.

Two weeks ago I came to teh point where I could clean the weight, but I couldn't execute a standing press without getting some leg drive into it (thus turning it into a push press).

Are push presses a vastly inferior strength-training exercise or are the comparable to strict standing presses? I'd hate to deload my power clean to a weight that I can press without using leg drive, but if push presses are much more ineffective, I suppose I can just separate my presses from my cleans.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

?

Your power clean should be larger than your overhead press, if it isn't then you have some serious issues. Push Press is essentially a jerk without the technical aspect to it. In fact your push press should be lower than your power clean as well.

What I mean by lower is not more than 20# but still lower, it's a good balance between leg/core strength to upper body strength
