P90X Anonymous
Has anyone tried the P90X program?
I've heard good things, and I've got my hands on some of the videos. So far I've only tried out the Ab Ripper X a couple times, but it feels really intense.
Right now I'm 260 and 6'3", used to be more into athletics, and I haven't been taking care of myself at all.
Anyone know if this is the kind of thing that could work? I'm looking more to just reduce fat and tone muscle that I've already got rather than bulk up.

I've tried them. The abs and plyometrics are especially intense.

Unfortunately I can't afford to support the mini gym that p90x asks for in both money and space. It is quality though.

Glad to know I'm not the only one at least, I can't remember where I heard of it first, it might have even been here, as long as it wasn't some internet ad.

Mostly I'm planning on going through maybe one of the videos a day, with Ab Ripper x every 2 days. I'm usually on my feet for 8 1/2 hours 5 days a week at my job, so that cardio suits my needs (at least for now, I don't want to push it and risk losing interest in exercise completely).

And me either, I'm not planning on buying anything extra, mostly I wanted to try it out for the sake of having a routine of heavy exercise I can do with mostly or all of just my own body weight, with minimum other weights and things.
If you know any other good fatburning/toning/flexibility exercises I can do with nothing more than my own bodyweight, I'd love to hear them.

Wish I did, but to be honest when it comes calisthenics I think this is about the peak of what you can do.

Also, I'm sure you're aware though, this won't net you much in the way of mass. You'll be strong for your body weight though and ripped as shit if you take it seriously.

I just did the first day on the schedule of p90x, Chest & Back and Ab Ripper X. I tried to do about half of the reps they were doing on screen, and I still gave out halfway through Chest & Back. Then I did the same thing with Ab Ripper X, half-assing it but dying by the middle. This shit is tough, I am near death right now. I'm gonna stay with it and doing as much as I can each day, hopefully I'll get better quick and be able to keep up. I highly recommend it if you're not a lardass or skinny fag. You have to be in petty decent condition to start. Its worth it though, these workouts are awesome.

I'm pretty much a lardass now, but I've been using it bit by bit as a guide for workouts, I don't really follow a regimen, could this be bad? I figured it was better than nothing, as long as it doesn't end up hurting me or anything.
With ab ripper x I definitely couldn't get through all the reps either, so I just took a break like they tell you to in the video and did what I can, it still feels great I think.

Wait, i thought for this system you only need a pull up bar and a few dumbbells...? What do you truly need to take full advantage of this course?

Also, i don't think i'm ready for the p90x. on their website, it recommends beginning with the Power 90 (note the lack of X) program before moving on to the extreme. Does anyone have any opinions on the Power 90 program? What equipment does it require?

I haven't heard anything about the Power 90 program, but I just jumped in from doing virtually nothing to going through the P90X videos, and I think it feels great, even if you can't keep up the entire time, I figure eventually I'll take less rests and get up there.
I heard it was a really good exercise plan if you didn't want to buy a bunch of stuff, and from what I can tell it's pretty bare bones, so it works for me. I'd rather be able to work out anywhere anyways instead of having to use public gyms.

90 is for the length of the program (90 days). Power 90 is pretty boring, but it's alright. It's great, however, if you don't have a gym membership and only have 30-45 mins to workout.

I tried it after my father bought it, ( i know he could've have had it for free but meh.. i didn't knew he ordered it).

I was surprised the programs required weights or elastic bands as i didnt had any, but i borrowed my gf pilates shit to get the bands.

Trust me, theses workout are really demanding, but they are awesome. After finishing a dvd completely you really feel tired. You know you worked-out ( if you didn't half-assed it).

Also the way the progrmas is built you don't really get bored of it since it's changin each week. If you could get a hand on it i higly reccomend doing it.

Do te work, stick to the diet they suggest (same thing as /fit/ usually suggest: low carbs, high proteins) and you'll get results. It's hard, really hard but if you do it you'll be grateful you did.

it should come with a manual of about 120 pages ( explains everything) and a manual explaining the mealplan. ( i am the anon who's father bought it)

The p90x website has a "fitness test" sort of thing, like can you do x many pushups and shit. I could just barely do what they recommended there, so i ordered the regular p90 instead and I've been doing it for 37 days. I was a totally out of shape 210 lb 5'10 37 year old on day 1. The first month really felt like it was build up and getting fit and in the second month I feel like weight is really dropping off now.

I've lost tons of weight, I can see muscles I've never had in my entire life and I've dropped from a 36 pant size to a 34.

Hey man, I'd love to hear more about the normal P90. Does it come with any books/nutrition plan like the P90x? Does it require any extra equipment like dumbbells, resistance bands, etc.?

Thats pretty much what I'm doing, just as much as I can for each video and trying to get further and further without collapsing. I do try to do them in order according to the documents, and for the full length daily, but you could probably get somewhere just taking the excersizes and fitting them into whatever you do. Id try to stick to the vids as much as possible though.

Nevermind, just found a torrent for them, so hopefully that'l keep me decently regular, and not in the metamucil kind of way.

Has anyone else had any experience comparing the P90 and the P90X program? I don't really want to get ahead of myself by jumping into the P90X program too fast.
