Okay /fit/
I'm not going to tell you what I have since there's no fixing it and I doubt some /fit/izens could tell me more than doctors over the past ten years.

However, I'm interested in ways of dealing with pain (no hurting myself to draw it away)

What works:
- Vibrations to my hands
- Music
- Breathing (sometimes)

Doesn't work:
- Using frustraton/anger and forcing it against the pain.
- Visualization
- Mantras of how I'm in control
- Singing

Any books, videos, techniques and/or personal stories?

I advise you to breathe all the time

me again forgot to post actual advice with my sarcasm. The way i understand it the only way to deal with pain is to take your mind of it. pain is a largely mental thing and if you think about it or anticipate it you will feel it more.

You should find as many distractions as you can, i know it's not very helpful but i'm willing to bet that when you're engrossed in a computer game or a conversation you forget about the pain.

More information on what the pain is im interested.

should be more specific about the pain, and where it is

there's alot of different ways to deal with it

just depends on what you are/aren't limited to doing

Yes, you're completely right (and made me lol) but getting to sleep has become a bit of a problem.

Genital regions with the feelings of someone hamering/kneading, stinging, burning, knives, pins (on worse occasions goddamn sewing machines), and crawling/stinging fire ants.

Fine.
bladder twice the size of a normal adult's
pelvic floor dysfunction
IBS
(the last two aren't confirmed, but the best they can come up with, because PFD explains the bladder size but not the needles, IBS paired with it though is very plausable)

Also, the pain could also possibly be from my anxiety/agoraphobia and from the UTIs I had when I was little (4 - 7) (and learnt to hold in my urine so I wouldn't sting - expanding my bladder) and being touched so much by doctors (says the psychologist/psychiatrist/gyno).

yeah with all that pain your bound to get IBS with the stress it causes you, I get IBS it's a bit of nightmare on it's own! but there are medications you can get to aliveate that if you do have it and they are very effective.
As for helping you sleep maybe you could listen to audio books or music and try to fall to sleep whilst listening to those.
There are some strange things that you can try, like sleeping at the other end of your bed, sleeping with your socks on, sleeping in other rooms or just sleep whever you are tired be it on the sofa or the floor right after work, having set bed times can just make you anxious about the night ahead. You can start to feel like you don't want to go to bed because you know you will have trouble getting to sleep, changing things like rearranging your room can help with this anxiety a lot.

ok me again

i just read this bit
>Also, the pain could also possibly be from my anxiety/agoraphobia and from the UTIs I had when I was little (4 - 7) (and learnt to hold in my urine so I wouldn't sting - expanding my bladder) and being touched so much by doctors (says the psychologist/psychiatrist/gyno).

And your problems started to make a little more sense to me, my IBS was stress/anxiety related which exploded into full blown anxiety with an almost permanent panic attacks after a few tabs of LSD didn't agree with me. I had so many symptoms that most of them slip my mind but i remember having bladder problems too, sharp pain and a constant feeling that i needed to pee. I can see how easy it would be for it to develop into phobias or OCD or anything else which people use to try and rationalize the way they are feeling.

funny you mention this, because I moved my bed a few weeks back, under my window, right before I had a major panic attack and passed out. Maybe moving it back to the opposite wall would help...

Also, the music/audiobook idea = noted, thank you for your suggestions.

Yeah, sometimes I feel like I'm going to leak and will spend the day kneeling on a towel/in the bathroom. I'm sorry that you have these sorts of problems too, but it's comforting to know you understand and recieve advice from someone alike. I really appreciate your responses.

Hey...does anyone know much about those heating pad knickers/diapers? Are they effective, worth it, dangerous, etc.

wow... we didn't learn stuff like that in med school...

To help you relax try White Noise, or alternations of it that sound like the Ocean or Rain... it really helps you relax and go to sleep peacefully.

Just google it, i think u'll be able to find a download for it...

I had a friend who had RDS, so my condolences.

read up on anything that releases endorphins.
running (runner's high)
spicy food
art (that's why music works for you)
yoga
caffeine (they put it in aspirin for pain relief)
meditation
sex
etc.

also concentration works a little. If your mind is busy enough that you lose track of the time. I find playing the piano takes my mind off anything that bothers me, and after 1/2 hour I feel as buzz like I just had a beer or something.

Also, see a neurologist. the brain is fucking wierd and the right neurosurgeon will know few tricks that can 'reset' your nervous system.

laughter and alcohol.
watch tv and movies that make you laugh. comics (like Garfield, Groo, Sam & Max) are great.
alcohol, take a little tiny bit every day

Tried the other side of the bed, worked.
Watched a couple things to make me laugh to get rid of/stave off the pain, worked

Funny thing is, it hurt like hell in the morning, worse than usual. Hmmm...
