So i'm fucking sick of eating nuts, tuna, tofu after my workouts... why do people warn against protein powder? Isn't just fucking pure protein as powder form?

I think I'll go buy some this week.
>> YoungBuck
i use protien powder if i have some and usually i will mix it with milk, i drink a small glass 30 minutes before my workout and 30 minutes after.

k thanks, is there a certain brand you use? / suggest?

is expensive better? or just a rip off?
>> Anonymous
I don't know why do people warn against it? I mean it can give you trouble if you are black or asian or something because those people tend to be lactose intolerant....but i don't see anything wrong with eating it but if you aren't going to be working out on it just make sure you eat a bunch of fiber with it to slow its digestion down.....

WHO THE FUCK WARNS AGAINST PROTEIN POWDER??

SRSLY, I WANT TO GO SHOOT THEM IN THE FACE.

Who the hell warns against whey protein?

Some people are retards and think that a big tub of supplement is automatically a steroid. Yes, I really do know people who are that dumb.
>> Anonymous
People complain about protein powder because they are fear-mongering shit-scooping cunt-waffling double niggers. That's why. Nobody who knows anything at all about nutrition has a problem with protein powders.

"OH BUT YOUR KIDNEYS MIGHT ASPLODE" cries the dipshit "all-natural" body-builder-wannabe asswipe in the corner. You won't damage yourself at all. You'd have to eat KILOGRAMS of protein per day to fuck yourself up like that.

Eat it up nigger. Works wonders. Whey protein = king. Faster absorbing than even egg white protein (which had previously set the standard for measuring absorption). Want slow-absorbing? Casein bitch.

Down the hatch!

my mom called it vitamins one time.

i lold

then i showed her the vitamins

Hey it's the OP, I'm not a troll, I only started working out for 2 months now and am sick of the foods I mentioned in the OP and there's obviously more protein in the powder than the 15g i get in tuna and 25g i get in tofu so yeah.. any suggestions on brands?

My friends all warn against it, but they are WoW fags, 24 and virgins... I don't talk to many people at the gym they are always busy doing sets and I don't want to bug them.
>> Anonymous
oh yea i always get the ON shit from vitamin shoppe because its got a higher % of isolate.......you might want to use that for a while and then eventually work your way up to a pure isolate......I personally can't stand that six star or vitamin shoppe brand or muscle fortress brand whey it sucks......
>> Anonymous
>>298493

Why do you associate with these people if you wish to get anywhere healthwise?

Trust me, I used to know some guys like that, this was when I was a lazy bugger and they still made me cringe.
>> YoungBuck
ok OP listen up.

you first step is to get a towel and wrap it around your leg, soak it in gasoline.

call your friends over then have them line up

light your leg on fire and kick them in the balls as hard as you can.

congratulations you have mastered the technique known as the "flaming kick in the balls"

if i use protien powder it is whatever is in stock at a friends house since im to piss shit poor to afford any, but usually its whey and whey is the shits so buy some of that.

protip: vitamin shoppe store brand is rebranded ON

true story
>> Anonymous
>>298493

Why the fuck would you take advice from those people? Seriously, what the fuck are you thinking?

Optimum Nutrition (ON) Whey Isolate is the "go-to" brand. Not the cheapest, but definitely not the most expensive. It's sweetened with artificial sweeteners to limit the carbs and fat content. So basically, one scoop is 120 calories and about 26g of protein.

True Protein (http://www.trueprotein.com) is another one to check out if you want to buy in bulk (>10 lbs)

Well they are friends from when i was still in college, we had some classes together.

Don't worry though i'm fucking fit as an ox, just wanted to jump into the powder area... I run an hour every second day and do a shit ton of strength/HIIT...

my friends are fat video game slobs, but they're my friends :x

I did make some new fit friends at the gym and on the rugby team and track teams I joined... specifically a really hot asian chick ;x and I'm going to a dinner party at her house today ftw.. i hope my fat friends enjoy their WoW tonight and complain about their fail RLs.

>>298510

Thanks for the information, I'll be picking up this one since most of you suggest it and I just read up on it on google just now. Can't wait to start using it, I'll probably pick it up tomorrow after class in the afternoon.

I know what you mean about the friends thing, mine go back to high school and one of them is slightly less socially inept, he's just living with another one who is obese, domineering, delusional and arrogant with no merit and he is a paragon of all that is evil in the world of WoW and D&D.

>>298507
haha thats hilarious because it is NOT the same look at the package i have some here right now it has added sodium and a bit of vitamins and it taste like shit i bet it has a lower % of isolate too....possibly with the rise of whey prices they changed it and it used to be the same but it is defintely not the same......

k. i haven't looked in a while.

Fact: Your body can only use around 20% of the protein you give it from isolated whey protein.

Being in its crude form your body doesn't recognize it as easily and has a hard time using it. A piece of chicken will give your body much more.

HOWEVER... meats and such usually take your body a considerable amount of time to digest while the whey protein you find in shakes is used up very quickly and is great to stop catabolism after a work out.

You still want to pick some powder up. Just make sure its not the only form of protein you give yourself.

Mix soy and whey together; Soy has some amino acids that enhance NO(2) production, which leads to higher blood levels of NO. Translation? You get better pumps! When I get my mags out later, I'll throw up all you need to know about protein
>> Anonymous
>>298645
gtfo. what does soy have that whey doesn't?

oh thats right, it has moobs.

>>298638

You're a fag. Please consider the following scientifically proven facts before speaking next time.

Fact 1: You're a fag.

Fact 2: Whey has high BV values.

Fact 3: You reek of faggotry.

>>298645
fuck. you. pumpfag.
>> Anonymous
>>298645
I'll throw up if you post again.

>amino acid"s"
there is only one amino acid that lends itself to NO production and that is arginine, which is found in both.
>> Anonymous
>>298738
and you would also need about 30 grams of it injected directly to your bloodstream to see a rise in bloodflow.
>> Anonymous
>>298645
Evidence suggests that Branched Chain Amino Acids (Leucine, Isoleucine, and Valine) are most conducive to muscle growth, these are found in high levels in Whey protein. Arginine should be an after thought after those three.
>> Anonymous
>>298638
Not true, that isn't how digestion works. Proteins (i.e. groups of amino acids chained together) clump in the stomach and digest slowly. Free form amino acids and isolated proteins skip this process and move to the intestine to quickly be absorbed.

Protip: People don't warn against whey powder, what they do warn against is using it as anything but a suppliment.

That means you still need to eat your tuna tofu, nuts and shit. You just use whey to supplement your protein to reach the extra 150-250% to get maximal gains.
>> Anonymous
>>298786
whey after work outs, casein shakes for any other meal and welcome to being lean

I don't mean to be a fag, and I don't believe this myself, But I have heard about some random study lost in the internet that says that protien powders aren't a perfect supliment for natural protien because protien powders are somehow altered or brokend and thus don't go into yor muscles as well as protien from a steak or something
I'm probably gonna go get a tub of that shit myself for when i get off my lazy fucking house-bound ass and go to that gym.

Eat tuna...

That's why you should actually drink it - it has no lactose, only essential protein.

NSI whey protein from vitacost.com tastes fucking good, and doesn't have fucking splenda shit in it

uses stevia and xylitol, which are natural sweeteners but not sugar.. tastes good man
>> Anonymous
>>299136
well it has some lactose unless it is pure isolate i think.......like blacks/asians shouldn't probably use ON...but there a whey based protein powder for them just more expensive.......

so is there casein in cottage cheese? i usually just take whey supplements and add either benefiber and or eat a fiber bar or broccoli with my protein shakes if i'm not working out....is casein better should i be doing casein plus fiber when i do this instead of regular food? I try to eat real food as much as possible but i mean come on sometimes i just don't feel like eating.......
>> Anonymous
>>299736
>casein
>not working out
yes

>>299736
and yes, cottage cheese is casein. you'll also get whey from the milk in it but of course thats not very much.

how about a higher concentration of glutamine? and the whole phytoestrogen/gynecomastia scare is totally bogus. The amount of soy protein needed to alter human estrogen levels is almost impossible to consume.

Protein powder is fine. If you don't use it often, I'd suggest picking up some digestive enzymes to take with it too so you don't get too gassy and so you're body actually absorbs and uses all the protein it can.
