If you're pretty overweight, biking is the best. It doesn't cause much, if any, strain on your joints. Once your body gets stronger, move to running/treadmill.

60-80% MHR for 30 minutes on an elliptical. Also start lifting weights. After a month of that, start running on a treadmill in that range. This is all so your joints get used to the pounding. Another month of that, I'd start doing HIIT on the elliptical first, before moving onto treadmill and outdoor HIIT.

The kind that uses your lower body to burn a lot of calories (read: JUST ABOUT EVERY FUCKING TYPE OF CARDIO).

I knew a girl who just power walked off about 70 pounds from March until now and she never touched weight training or even running. Anything will work if you're dedicated to doing it every day.
