Picture unrelated.

Dear /fit/, ive been meaning to pick up running to shed some pounds as summer rolls along. problem is, that i have very low endurance and havent a clue as to how often i should run and for how long. any suggetions?

ideally you'll want to run for about 30 minutes every morning on an empty stomach (and eat carbs right after), but if you're not in shape you'll probably experience some pain for a day or two after you run, so you'll want to limit it at first.

If you have access to a gym you may want to start out with an elliptical trainer to reduce impact.

here's an idea, how about instead of coming here and asking your stupid vapid questions you go and actually read up on fitness, health and diet? you know, empower yourself and shit?

if you want to be healthy and fit, why don't you read about what healthy and fit people do?

exercising on an empty stomach for someone who hasn't exercised in a long time is usually epic fail. if you've just woken up your blood sugar will be really low, and that'll be exacerbated by exercising.

eat a little like a banana or half a muesli bar before you exercise.

OP, the best solution is just to do it. There is no magic fucking prescription tailored to you out there. My suggestion would be not to worry about specifics because as a beginner you're not going to need it. HERE'S WHAT YOU DO: Run until you're fatigued (stride gets smaller and smaller, running out of breath) and then walk to catch your breath. Once you've got it and feel comfortable, run more. Repeat this shit until you feel comfortable you've tackled your goal for the day (DO NOT END IT TOO SOON). If you feel like you're not done but really can't run anymore then just speed walk (think military march mother fucker, swing yer arms and the legs will follow) and mix it up with some pushups along the way. You'll get discouraged but just don't give up. A small step is all it takes to get going but sitting on your ass and trying to think yourself into badassery simply doesn't work.

Studies show that walking is better for weight loss than running. Get out and walk for an hour a day. If you are eating well it should be all you need.
