Hey /fit/, I have a question. I went to the gym two days ago, for the first time ever. I started out on the running machines which I was fine with and then did some excercising on the weights for my arms. Now, two days later my arms are so painful I'm finding it hard to dress myself and do generally simple things without a lot of pain. I'm just wondering, is this normal for a first-timer and will it go away on its own or have I injured myself and should go see a doctor?

Use lighter weights.
I think you're pwning your muscles too hard.

if you lifted to heavy or used wrong form you might have developed tendonitits. just have a trainer or therapist check you at your gym for it. It is pretty easy to identify and shouldnt cost to much to get checked for it. But tendonitis can suck and be pretty insanley painful.

Yeah, this is normal for a first timer, especially if you're trying to follow the scedule of a pro weight lifter. Just take it a bit easier in the beginning and ramp up the weights after a few weeks, this will give you time to perfect your form meanwhile too.

Yeah, it shouldn't be too much of a problem for you.

The first time I went, I focused on chest and triceps, and I was pretty good after that. The second time, I did biceps and back... I swear to god I couldn't get either of my arms straight for a week... It was the most horrible experience of my life.

The funny thing is, it would feel fine when I would go to the gym and use my arms, then start aching up just after I'd leave.

Now (months later), there are no problems any more after workouts. It will go away for you. Just stretch lightly throughout the day to speed up the process.

Yup that's normal and what's even better this show that you are prone to building muscles quickly =D

Make sure you have a solid warm up before and stretch afterwards. I can't stress that enough. If you don't stretch the muscles after you work them out then you'll be in agony later.
