I just had a bronchoscopy last week. I'm sure the method of anaesthesia/sedation varies from clinic to clinic, but they gave me a moderate intravenous dose of Versed beforehand, and about all I can remember of the actual procedure is the initial weirdness of having a foreign object shoved down your throat/nostrils. It's not particularly painful, just weird. Supposedly, some patients suffer a bad sore throat for a few days following a bronchoscopy but all I had was a slight tickle for a few hours.
