Can anyone give me any info on the affect on "weight gain" when taking anti-depressants? I'm severely depressed and very often contemplate an hero'ing, which i will do if a few things go badly by christmas, but thats besides the point. I read that anti-depressants like Prozac can cause weight gain, but is this through people over-eating or is it an affect on your body that is causing you to store fat? I'd like to go to a doctor and get myself sorted out, but its not worth it if it will make me put on weight.

Anyone know?

They do. I have suffered from schizo, obsessive compulsive disorder and bi polar disorder. i used to take Zoloft, Wellbutrin, Zyprxa, Prozac...Effexor...Seroquel all of them MADE ME GAIN A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WEIGHT, i was bloated...alot of other bad shit came with using those drugs too. One of the most horrorfying experiences i have ever had was when i was in the mental institution. They started me on Wellbutrin and that night i had this real "DREAM" where i murderd the roomate who was a nigger crack head, and it kept happening i had to place my foot on the floor to literally stay grounded, hard to explain, it was just frightening.

Shit like this made me stop taking all medications. I an slowly healing myself thru exercise and meditation.

I hope you find your solution OP. Mental hell is terrible.

Was the weight gained from overeatign and not exercising though? And what should i do outside medication? I feel like i'm going to end up an hero'ing if i cant find a solution.

Paxil made me gain about 30-40lbs, it just increased my appetite to the point where I was hungry 24/7.

Prozac was pretty awesome though, I didn't really gain any weight on it, same with Wellbutrin and Zoloft.

Sidenote: I had anorexia pretty damn bad and they sent me home with the Prozac, I did gain weight (20lbs) - but I also was eating properly.

If you have any concerns a GOOD psychologist/psychiatrist will listen to you and try to find you some meds that don't interfere with weight.

The medication causes bloating and just general weight gain, also it makes you very docile and this of course leads to weight gain. I would seriously seek professional help. You can either talk with your doctor about it or just check yourself into the mental health unit at a hospital and they will tell you all the options and you will discuss your problems with a few therepists and psy docs. You can also call the cops and say youre gonna kill yourself, its cool cause all teh swat team guys show up and come into your house like Counter Strike. I really just needed a free ride to the hospitals mental ward, but i had lulz.

It takes time anon, hang in there, seek help that is your first step.

>or just check yourself into the mental health unit at a hospital

Not going to happen tbh. I feel if i go and do that i will be sectioned and that cannot happen. All i want is some tablets and for people to leave me alone but they are going to keep interfering with me. If i go to the doctor do i get tablets or do i need to be evaluated at a pyschologist or something?

yeah the general practitioner of yours can prescribe them, it doesnt have to be a psy.

What country are you in? I'm in the UK, i dont know the way it works but i always assumed tablets would be the last thing they would try.

Well im in the US. They just pass them out like candy over here, basically tell your doctor you are suffering from depression, he may ask you if you feel suicidal at the moement, make sure you say no unless you want to be hospitalized, which by law they have to do here if you are a danger to yourself or others... He will probably write a scrip out then and there.

Can i say i think about killing myself, but dont intend to do it? Like i'm just thinking of methods and stuff but not actually planning to do it.

Yeah, id leave out the planning method part tho

stay away from remeron if you dont want to gain weight; stuff makes you hungry as FUCK

I hope you do it OP, but i know you wont, just like a hundred other emo cunts.
Please tho....

Emo is a blatently hypocritical bullshit scene full of faggot kids given everything on a plate and still find something to bitch about. If i were going to kill myself, i might aswell take a few of them with me.

>>357555

I have self control and have been around on /fit/ for a while so as long as i can continue the way i am on pills it shouldn't pose much of a problem, i guess i can discuss with my doctor which ones will be best for me if it comes to it.

I went through a depression last year and got out of it by myself. It started with my first year at uni, I abandoned it after 3 months, spent the whole year without going outside at all and playing WoW. There's a point after some time in the pit in which you realize you can't go on like this. Then you have 2 options: an hero, or leave self-pitying behind and start being more optimistic. I did the latter, and now I finished the 1st year successfully, have plenty of friends which I see more often than my body can stand, have a girlfriend and a steady job.

My point is: you don't need meds. You should'nt take meds. If you get better you'll think it was thanks to them, and that won't improve your self-esteem at all. Get out of the pit by yourself, and you won't fall there ever again.

I understand that some are able to get out of a funk and better themselves without drugs. SOME PEOPLE. You have to understand depression and other forms orf real mental illness actually chemically changes the brain and how it works. For some people meds are a necessity. I do not take the drugs i am prescribe (Lithium) because i believe as you do. However it is still a slow process and different for everyone
