Lately, I've been trying to get into shape. I've been exercising for half an hour each day, have dropped all junk food and soda, and am eating less and drinking lots of water. I'm 5'7 and I've gone from 213 to 203 so far.

Anyways, just getting a bit of the background info out of the way so I could ask a question. How do I learn to do push ups? Right now, I can manage 17 before my arms give out on me and I collapse on the floor, wiped out. If I want to do more, should I keep trying to push that limit? Or do smaller sets and gradually work my way up?

Why would you need to do more than 5 pushups?

OP here. The push ups aren't really so much important as they are a means to an end. I'd like to be healthier, stronger, more toned, etc.

The way I see it, if I struggle with doing 15 pushups right now, then by the time I can easily do 50, my body will be in much better shape than before.
