Stretch Marks Anonymous
Hey /fit/,

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with stretch marks. For the longest time I've been fit and recently I let myself go for a bit because of this funk I was in but now I have the damned things everywhere. Upper arms, stomach and behind the knee.

My question being since Im about to drop the weight and re enter society as not a fatty will I be doomed to loose skin forever or if I lose the weight and tone up will tighten back up?(I know you can't get rid of the marks themselves but I just want to avoid loose skin)

Im about 100lbs overweight btw :\

This is relative to my interests.

I have stretch marks on my arms from when I was a little bit over weight.

After a few years they turned white and hardly visible.

Then I did some weights to get muscle in my arms and parts of them have turned back to pinky/purple again =/

Now im affraid to do more weights.

OP:
As far as I know some people just get them it can't be avoided as long as there is any stress on the skin but as for the tightening up part I have no clue if it'll just sag or it will come back to normal but just with the marks on it.

They'll never go away, ever. They'll fade so it's hard to see them, but they're there forever.

They appear when there's a relatively sudden growth under the skin, either fat, muscle, or a baby. So lose the weight, bulk up a bit and blame it on the muscle.

Indeed true but the question was will there be a mass of loose skin because of them or will they reduce in size(with the marks still there but the skin tightened up)as the person loses weight and tones up some.

Been thin my entire life and I have them over my lower back and butt.

I'm so confident I'm never getting laid that I don't really care about them anymore :)

I've had stretch marks around my back since I was 15 and weighed 100 pounds.

Is there some kind of laser-stretch-mark removal you can get? I actually want to kill myself because of mine.
I am so sickeningly self conscious about them.

OP here,

Yeah I just got them less then a year ago so I don't have much experience with having them and being thin. I know I can lose the weight and get toned again(muscle) but the idea of sagging skin bugs me, rather prepare for it if it is going to happen.

Yes, but killing yourself is a lot cheaper. Cocoa butter and Vitamin E oil are said to work.

No way to get rid of them period. Certain skin care products do make them lighter/fade though.

Agreed. They won't fade either. Skin care products are mostly scams.

Stretch marks are scar tissue. DEEP scar tissue that goes waaaay down several layers of skin.

Also, they have the horrible habit of either being slightly dimpled or being raised just like scar tissue. Even when they "fade", you can still see where they are.

>loose skin

This thread is about whether or not having the marks will make your skin excessively saggy after dropping back to normal weight...

theres always surgery! :D

Not sure about that one, but I heard they're less noticeable if you get a nice, healthy tan.
There are always ways to make them less visible, but I'm not sure how to get rid off them entirely.

I used to be skinny and since I gained quite abit of muscle (about 33lb weight gain so far) I had bad stretch marks on my inner thighs

At first they were bright red and easily visable but after afew months they've turned white and you can hardly see them anymore.

Just don't lose weight too fast to avoid loose skin

Lasers don't work? Guess I'm fucked for life then...

The facts:

You cant get rid of stretch marks. they wont be red and anrgy forever -- they fade and become skin colored eventually.

depending on how many stretchmarks you have, you skin may be saggy after you lose the weight. Its impossible to say for sure.

Imagine a balloon. Blow it up, deflate it and look at the balloon again -- thats your skin.

Stretch marks can be lasered off when they ARE STILL DARK/RED.

If you want rid of them go to the doctor's right away.

*facepalm*

it doesnt work like that.

You dont go to the doctors, you go to a beauty clinic that offers laser surgery becauser its cosmetic.

At most, there might be a 20% improvement of the stretch marks. I read it in that article anon posted above. 20% is nothing. just wait for the red to fade man.

There's products out there for woman who are pregnant for them to rub into their skin to minimize stretch marks. I used one when I noticed the marks called Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula with Vitamin E. It didn't eliminate them but once I started using it it they didn't grow and they turned white quicker.

Turning white != turning skin color

...at least in my case. More reasons why I'm fucked for life lolz

the products for pregnant women are to PREVENT stretch marks in most cases, not to make them better.

No, they're to be applied as they form to help keep the skin moist and pliant so the stretch marks will fade more as they size of the woman goes down.
