Hey /fit/

I recently got my gym membership renewed and today was my first day back there. The place is fucking filled with little kids ( I'm guessing middle schoolers-maybe some high school freshman ) and it's just a horrible environment to work out in. I might just stick to working out at home and good old fashion jogging around the block.

Discuss pros and cons of a gym and working out at home. Pic unrelated.

Mine's not so bad, but the fucking parents there need to stop bringing their stupid little shits into the gym. It's a fucking place for working out, not a goddamn daycare.

Also there's two filthy spic teenagers that I have seen at mine a few times, I'd like to kill them both because they speak to each other in spic language. But other than that they haven't really bothered me.

But the little kids running around all over the place are the fucking worst.

Working out at home will always be better than going to a commercial gym,but making a GOOD home gym is extremely expensive
>> Anonymous
Pros:
Expensive machines

Cons:
People

I weighed the odds, and now I work out at home.

Clubber Lang said it best: "I live alone. I train alone."

Maybe you won't have access to a wide variety of machines, but do you really need them? Polish that ingenuity and come up with home alternatives.

With a bench, barbell, plates, and dumbels you can do pretty much everything.

Except heavy squats. due to no spotter. thats fine though. Im not a power lifter.

I work out at home. i hate being around people.

I work out at home. I don't have to deal with ANYONE, and with just a few basic bars and weights, you can really do whatever the fuck you want (unless you are lifting to be a fucking beefcake meathead pig).

And why the fuck would you do cardio in a gym? You can run outside, do steps inside on a chair or a box, or you can buy a treadmil/bike and chill out at home watching tv or whateverthefuck.

Taking a shower by yourself and not in a room full of naked men is a plus as well.

Because after working out at a gym, you are forced to use the showers?

Thanks OP for buying a gym membership. People like you are true patriotic heroes of the fitness industry. I have a high paying job, and our gym doesn't get crowded, because people like you buy memberships and decide that its not for you.

If you're a blob and you have some equipment at home, work out at home until you once again resemble a human. Once you find yourself limited by your home equipment, or are in sufficiently good shape that you wouldn't be embarrassed to show your face at a gym, go to the gym.

I recommend this because this is what I did myself. Although I specifically go to the local gym that is mostly populated with old folks, because I'd really rather not be distracted by hot chicks/meatheads when I'm working out.

Are you a social or solitary person? Are you competitive?

Pros if you're social:
1. People to work out with
2. Expensive machines
3. Support groups & trainers
4. Recipe cards and dietitians (well, the gym around here offers it)
5. 24 hour access (well, some places offer it, others don't)
6. The sauna. Oh Lordy I love the Sauna.
7. The steam room. Another love of mine
8. You get to see attractive members of the opposite gender working those muscles.. mmm turn on
9. Its mental encouragement.
10. Make friends/work out buddies

Cons:
1. Takes time to walk/drive there and back
2. Requires effort, bitch.
3. Tires you out before you have to go and do other things with your life.
4. Crowded on weekends (I hate weekenders...)
5. Hidden fees for classes, nutritionists, and other "benefits"
6. Money
7. If you're already out of the house, instead of going all the way home afterwards to eat something healthy you'll probably end up eating out somewhere unhealthy. However, there are some gyms that have small health cafe's in them or adjacent (owned by the same company) that offers some absolutely amazing food. Avacado rolls... nom nom...
