So I eat a protein meal/snack after strength training but what should I eat after running?

I usually run in the evening when I finally have time but my daily consumption of food is usually all eaten.. I plan ahead but usually it leaves me with nothing to eat after a jog.

Do I just let my body eat off my fat storage or should I eat a bit of protein for my legs/let me body replenish in the few hours before I pass out for bed?

I usually drink a protein shake, depends on you I guess.. are you hungry after you run?

I remember being told you should get some carbs and protein into your system after hard aerobic work. Something like half a pb&j sandwich would work.
