coffee, /fit/... Does it really have no calories?
>> Anonymous
There are oils and such released into the water when coffee is brewed, but the amount is so small that any calories are completely negligible.

So, the only calories I should count are the ones the milk adds?

Basically water and caffeine plus other shit you put in there like sugar.

And it aslo dehydrates you

I was talking about coffee you get at a supermarket and make yourself.

Coffee is like real tea (teabag tea, not sugar tea), it has practically zero calories. all the calories come from the bullshit loaded into it.

one thing of coffeemate has over 2000 calories in it. about 30 or so fluid ounces, too. diet coffeemate (still great!) has 650 calories for the same amount. I prefer some skim milk in there, too.

but if you can take your coffee straight... damn, power to you.

It CAN dehydrate you. The mild diuretic effect a controlled amount of caffeine has on you can easily be taken care of by ensuring adequate fluid intake.

you are an idiot.
coffee, while being a diuretic, is also made of water, you fucking moron. the standard rule of thumb for hydration is that drinking a certain amount of coffee is is worth about 50% of that amount of water. it is impossible to get dehydrated from drinking coffee and it is probably impossible for you to tie your own shoes.

No it doesn't.

You pee out the same amount of water after a cup of coffee as you would after a cup of water.

..........

You pee it faster though, and part of the water isn't processed through your body, therefore not doing as much good as straight water, although it does not have a negative effect as stated above.

On a related note, is regular caffeine intake (say, a cup of coffee each morning) linked in any way with health problems?

At that level, not really if you're in good health. If you have a lot of any stimulant it can stress the heart, but unless you're 300lbs, 5' tall, 58 years old, and drink a gallon of black coffee a day I'd say you're probably aces.
