Why don't you learn how to fight instead of doing a lot of useless squats and other dumb exercises?
>> Anonymous
i do jiu-jitsu and mma, powerlifting excercises like squats are the perfect compliment to it.

not everything is about fighting. I find spending time in the gym much more enjoyable and rewarding then all the years I did bjj

you might be ok if you're weak and fighting a guy that doesn't know jujitsu. but fight a very strong jujitsuka, and you're gonna want to start some weight training.

Learn judo.

You dun have to be the size of a truck to actually beat someone really badly with judo.

Its all about technique and timing. Unless your a monster, then you can go fuck technique and timing and just use judo + brute strength

Jiu-jitsu?
That's an awfully fancy name for rolling around on the floor with another dude, trying to touch each other's balls.

No, just smart enough to know that you shouldn't waste time on a style that places way too much emphasis on grappling.

Yeah. I recently fought a boxer (he wasn't pro or anything, just a guy who trained in boxing for a few years. I'm just a guy who learned a couple years BJJ and wrestled in highschool) and told him, flat out, that I could beat him without throwing a punch. He was fully allowed to do anything he wanted but had to wear some sparring gloves.

He landed a couple good punches and I had a nasty black eye. . . but I got good shot on him that initially he sprawled on and landed a couple more punches on before I stood, clinched, slammed the living shit out of him with a head-and-arm, mounted him and then when he rolled, choked him out with a rear-naked. He was too stubborn to tap so I put him to sleep.

Was really no sweat at all. He was not very happy about it.

Yeah. I recently fought a karate guy (he wasn't pro or anything, just a guy who trained in karate for a few years. I'm just a guy who learned a couple years judo and boxed in highschool) and told him, flat out, that I could beat him without using a lock. He was fully allowed to do anything he wanted but had to wear some sparring gloves.

He landed a couple good punches and I had a nasty black eye. . . but I got good shot on him that initially he sprawled on and landed a couple more punches on before I grabbed his shirt and tripped him forcing him on to his back. I followed it up immediately with a nasty blow to his face, dead on and he was out like a light bulb.

Was really no sweat at all. He was not very happy about it.

Really, anyone with a good shoot and quality grappling experience (things taught in any good BJJ or MMA school these days) will, at a very high percentage, be able to take down and submit (or mount and pound out) someone who has not trained extensively in grappling themselves.

This fact has been overwhelmingly proven by the early UFC's.

Only once strikers began training extensively in grappling, at least to become good enough to be defensive, did they start having much success in MMA.

It's much the same with the pure wrestlers who came in MMA versus Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Until they began learning submissions (and thus submission defense) they by and large lost.

Now days there's not a fighter out there with much(if any) success who hasn't trained massively in wrestling techniques, BJJ and judo techniques.

If you believe someone untrained in grappling has any high level of chance against a quality grappler, you need to stop watching Kung Fu flicks with your dick in your hand.

This has been argued millions of times. The effectiveness of a martial art is based more than anything else on the combined skill, strength, technique and intelligence of the artist. Comparing styles is pointless and harmfully divisive; instead, see the benefit of all styles and incorporate it into your identity as a martial artist and/or fighter.
That's the way to be a truly great student, not to mention a dangerous opponent.

No you need to pull YOUR head out of your ass.

On any given day chances are if you pick a fight with some one they're AREN'T going to be a fucking grappling master. You don't have to waste fuck tons of time learning how to grapple against opponents you'll never be fighting. There are more balanced martial arts out there that are a fuck ton better suited to self defense.

If you honestly think arm bars and sleeper holds make for good self defense preparation you need to stop watching fucking UFC all the time.

PS, there are no faggy rules in the real world. UFC chumps get by based on the fact that there some somethings their opponents just can't do without getting disqualified.

More to the point. I think most people underestimate how hard it is to knock a person out with only a few swings when they are resisting. Sure. If you get to sucker punch someone you MIGHT be able to knock them out with a high consistency.

A moving target is very hard to knock out. People, in general, are harder to KO than most think. They've watch too many movies and TV shows where a guy can land a couple clean punches, with ease, and KO someone completely unconscious.

The reality is that my chances to shoot and get *at least* a good single leg is MUCH higher than someone else's chance at knocking me out with a single punch while I'm making that shot.

It's possible but it's incredibly difficult.

Once a good grappler has a hold on someone, unless that person has at least a comparable level of training in grappling, they are going to get taken down and from there submitted or KO'd.

Krav Maga > All your shitty fighting styles. LOL "rules"
>> Anonymous
>>297342

You need to go back and watch the early UFC's. The few restrictions that they had were not the sort of things that would work AGAINST a grappler.

I love hearing dumb-ass karate dudes talking about strikes to the groin and fingers to the eyes. Like the person he has dominant position (someone with better grappling skills) could do the same things and likely do them more effectively due to being more in control of position.

Really, you need to just get to an MMA school or BJJ school and train a bit. Your ignorance and anger really belie someone who's probably not been in many fights or even situations where people are going at full speed.

Krav Maga isn't even a base fighting style. It's more like a philosophy revolving around learning all forms of self-defense relevant to what you can (like jeet kun do).

In that regard, how "good" Krav Maga is almost completely dependant on how open and well-rounded the teacher is.
>> Anonymous
>>297365

So it's basically NOTHING
>> Anonymous
>>297371

Like I said, it's more a philosophy - but yeah.

Unlike a traditional art (even like BJJ, a more modern but still traditional art) there is no core ciriculum that is Krav Maga.

It's primarily a military martial art, which basically just teaches you anything that has proven to be combat effective and depending on the teacher you could learn a completely different realm and style of fighting. Hell, a huge portion of Krav Maga focuses on using your assault rifle as a hand-to-hand weapon.

Wouldn't Jew Jitsu be Krav Maga?

>In that regard, how "good" Krav Maga is almost completely dependant on how open and well-rounded the teacher is.

Truth. I had a good teacher, just couldn't keep paying the bills for it each month. Just doing CrossFit workouts at my local Gold's has been much cheaper. As long as I can remember the techniques (really, reflexes) I learned in KM, I ought to be able to do alright because CF has definitely given me the strength.

You're an idiot. It takes moves from other fighting styles but it also has unique moves of its own, primarily for dealing with armed opponents or when you're outnumbered.
