So /fit/ I am getting my wisdom teeth extracted, all four of them. What can I expect about the before during and after of the operation. I received a prescription for three Valium to take an hour before. My main concern is what is going to happen during the operation, will it hurt, will I fall asleep, etc.
>> Anonymous
You should be asleep, no problem.

Do everything in your control to avoid dry sockets afterward they are some of the worst pain you'll ever experience.
>> Anonymous
they didnt put me to sleep, said i shouldnt feel it, but one of my wisdom teeth had a nerve wrapped around it. yea, i always thought that if i were to be tortured for information i could endure the pain and just dismiss it as temporary. that's a lie, I would have told that oral surgeon anything he wanted.

Yeah in your mind you always think you have the will power to do anything until it actually happens.

I remember after my thumb was reattached I prayed to god (I'm an atheist) that if he helped the pain I'd join a religion and get my life on track... no such luck.

I was knocked out. Thank god. I remember before hand no drinking/food for 12 hours. Going in I got one shot "for the pain" then that's the last thing I remember. I woke up with gauze in my mouth and groggy as hell. My mom drove me home, and I chilled in the recliner for the next two days with my laptop and watching DVDs. Barely ate or drank anything for 3 days, just to avoid the pain.

If you get vicodin, try to avoid taking it. Aspirin worked just fine after the second day. Wish I hadn't taken as much of my vicodin.
>> Anonymous
OP here, is there an average amount of days I will be out for?

I had the worst possible experience with wisdom teeth.

Everything was fine until I woke up, they asked if I could walk I said yes and proceeded to fall into a wall and knock myself out since I (obviously) wasn't ready to leave.
Halfway home I get nauseous have my mom stop, I get out and vomit blood all over the side of the rode, good times...
Then I got a dry socket in all 4 of my holes... worst pain I've ever felt, I did not get more than an hour a day for a week, nothing helped the pain. The school nurse felt so bad when I explained my situation and told her that I was finally able to sleep that she let me sleep the entire day in her back room (she normally would kick you out after like 20 minutes, I stayed for 8 hours)

This was maybe 5 years ago, other than what I described it was peachy.

Hard to tell, some people are fine after 2 some people (like me>>199191) are out of it for over a week
>> Anonymous
Poor guys getting them pulled, I got mine done while they were still in my jaw.

I was out for two days, though I prolly coulda gone to class the second day, was just so exhausted from the meds, lack of food, and lack of sleep due to the meds.

OP here again, I have a bunch of foods selected for me to eat, I have yogurt, pudding, jello, and tomato soup. Would these be good choices?
>> Anonymous
>>199199
I could have this confused with when I got my tongue pierced but I think yogurt is a bad thing to eat what with the living bacteria in it and all
>> Anonymous
>>199207
Not that kind of bacteria.
>> Anonymous
Keep your wisdom teeth, you'll never know when a nigger's going to hit you in the jaw. They're there for reason guys.
>> Anonymous
It was either when I got my tongue pierced or when I had my wisdom teeth out, yogurt was on the list of things not to eat and I just figured it was because of the bacteria.

Like I said it could have nothing to do with wisdom teeth as my memory sucks right now.

Good advice right there. I had my wisdom teeth pulled out along with four other teeth too, so eight in total. Try and avoid taking the vicoden, take ibuprofin or aspirin. Buy straws to suck on juic ( like apple). No chips, nuts, or anything that can get stuck in there (popcorn for example) I personally didn't eat for a couple of days.

Best of luck to you, anon.
>> Anonymous
Why does everyone say to not take the vicodin?
>> Anonymous
OP here, what about Valium? Is there anything wrong with that?
>> Anonymous
>>199226

you're not supposed to use straws because it fucks all your shit and it won't heal.
>> GrilledCheese !!hAKfRUhoVbv
>>199234

you can get over the pain with just aspirin/OTC painkillers.

save the vicodin for a better use ;)
or for when you actually need it. Shit saved my life.
>> Anonymous
same here OP, im getting all four of my wisdom teeth taken out in about a month.

>>199226
dude, from the info i got from the oral surgeon, it is a bad idea to use a straw to drink (at least initially) because it could dislodge then blood clot in the former tooth socket, causing dry socket......best not to use straws for a while
>> Anonymous
Why do they even need to remove wisdom teeth?

Youd think you would be just fucking fine left alone. Dentist jew conspiracy to make us more like them, ala circumcision, but with our teeth, and getting out money?
>> Anonymous
this will be the worst pain you can imagine. poor OP.

I got mine taken out in a clinic in Colombia, I shit you not.

I got mine taken out before they were even visible, and without any form of anesthetic, worst of all, the doc had huge fucking hands.

I had to get all 4 taken out because of the way they were growing in, they were gonna fuck up 5 years of braces, so they HAD to come out. To this day ive never felt pain like it, being forced to sit there still with my mouth open for so long while they got extracted was terrible, I couldnt hold my mouth open due to the pain so it had to be forced open with some plastic device. The taste of blood was terrible aswell, and the fact that you almost drown in your own blood and spit dosent help...I baawwd

Even with all that though, I didnt swell up at all, literally zero swelling afterwards.

Here in the us though, your prolly be given local anesthetic, which involves a fucking huge needle, its relatively painless though. Or youll be put to sleep, which is by far the best case scenario.

Afterwards you basically sustain yourself on water for a day or two, and for the next week itll hurt a bit to bite, but its not too bad unless you swell up, the swelling might not go down for a week and a half. In my case though the procedure itself was the worst part.

Your very limited in what you can eat, im a big milk drinker, and not being able to drink milk for 3 days was pretty bad for me. Apparently milk can get into the little crevices and fermentate, or however you say it in english, which is pretty fucked up.

All in all though, stick to the first world OP, and you should be fine

this
unless they are causing problems they don't have to be removed
>> Anonymous
>>199458
They almost always cause problems.
>> Anonymous
I never had to have mine removed. They grew in just fine

Is it safe?

Interesting. My doctor reccomended I use straws and I did. Didn't have a single problem and I was able to drink many fluids.

Another thing too; my mistake. Don't suddenly drink lots of fluids when you haven't had any in a while. You'll throw up, and I ALMOST did.

According to my dad, everyone in our family still has ours.
>> Anonymous
OP here, I read that you should drink thin soups, would tomato soup be thin enough?
>> Anonymous
I am NOT looking forward to the day I have to get mine pulled... they are most certainly going to be coming in crooked.

Is it smarter to do it before they start to come in, or wait until then? I want to get it over with... definitely don't want it done during the school year.

>>199877
Ok here is the definitive answer.

DO NOT USE STRAWS.

They are one of the leading causes of dry sockets and even if you don't get one straws will slow down the healing process, sucking on anything will actually.

What about soda or energy drinks, yes or no?
>> Anonymous
>>200284
Should be no problem

Apparently I will never be getting wisdom teeth in the first place! My jaw doesn't even have the buds where the teeth are supposed to grow. My brother is the same way.

Strange huh?

if they give you the option of being knocked out or heavily drugged, go with the latter. I know, I know, it sounds stupid, but alot of people have a very adverse reaction to the knockout gas. It will hurt, don't drink from a straw for a while, don't touch sodas, try not to swallow any guaze. If the doc's a professional and good at what he does, it'll only feel like he's pressing down on your jaw four five minutes on each tooth.
Funnily enough, on the second day or third, your hole's still hurt like a bitch, but in actuality it's from the stitches.
Oh, and you can take up to 800mg of ibuprofen each dose. That'll come in handy.
Best of luck Anon, and if you were to come earlier, I would've said to look around for a drug study company, alot of times they'll do your wisdom teeth for you, test out a new painkiller that's awesome, and give you a grand for your trouble.

>>199936
Probably. I hate tomato soup though. Only had some cup of soup thing, basically broth with some herbs and small noodles and apple sauce for the first two days.
>> Anonymous
My dentist said I didn't need mine removed.

He was right, they grew in just fine and didn't fuck up my teeth/gums.

The ones that came in on top actually lessened a small gap I had in my two front upper teeth.
>> Anonymous
OP here, my operation is tomorrow at 9 and I'm scarred as fuck. Really it is only because I don't like the idea of someone pulling something out of me and me not being able to feel it. Also what kind of pretreatment is there? I've heard that they give you a numbing gel, novacane, gas, and you take painkillers before.
>> Anonymous
I love my wisdom teeth.
How they came up and did nothing but gently close a few gaps I had. They were like nature's braces.

if they fuck with your other teeth, it needs to come out.

mines are impacted, so they fucking push against the root of my molars pretty bad so i need to get them out.
>> Anonymous
I can't believe you bunch of pussies. Sure getting them extracted hurts like fuck, but I was smoking, drinking and generally fine a day later and had no problem with either foods or liquid on the day of the surgery.

I've had them done with two different methods, once they cut and extracted, the other time they drilled and smashed. If you can help it, never ever have them drilled and smashed.
>> Anonymous
I have all four, they haven't caused any problems apart from some tenderness but the dentist said they'll come in fine. My bottom ones are still covered by some gum.
>> Anonymous
I just had it done and was put to sleep... woke up, didn't feel shit... and started taking my vicadin immediately... 2 weeks later my teeth still hurt though... my wisdom teeth were pushing a lot of things around and now my teeth kind of feel like they're swimming around my mouth.
>> Anonymous
I had all 4 out, bottom 2 were showing, top 2 didn't show at all. I took the anti-biotic or whatever an hour before, couldnt eat anything the night before and got put to sleep. I woke up, layed on the bed clenching my teeth togeather so my sockets would not be filled with blood. Puked on the way home and was fine from there. I was able to eat solid food in 3 days, no swelling at all.
>> Anonymous
I dont have my wisdom teeth yet and Im 19 :(

Is this normal?
>> Anonymous
>>201297

Yes. I got mine extracted at 20, and they had only just begun to break the top of my gums (just a tiny corner of each one was showing.)

I ended up having antibiotics not work for me, developing an infection which was threatening to spread down my throat. I couldn't swallow. They sent me to the hospital and pumped me full of "big guns" antibiotics through an IV since I hadn't eaten in several days and had lost 6 pounds over 2 days. I was on a diet of liquid broth for a while. I cleared up and thankfully got home a bit later. I missed several days of work, but they told me my complication was rare.

It doesn't hurt if they use anesthesia. I cannot imagine doing it without it. It's something you just can't think about or else you'll psych yourself out. Just think about something else. And take your pain pills before the anesthesia wears off.

My wisdom teeth starting growing in when I was fifteen. I didn't have to get them pulled out because they all grew in fine, though perhaps rather early. My sister wasn't even born with wisdom teeth and she considers herself lucky.
