From what I've heard (various texts, doctors, gym rats) early afternoon (roughly 2:00 - 3:00) is the body's peak. Of course, this is right in the middle of most people's work day, so fuck that.
I try and workout when I first get up, at least on days I have off from work. Gets it out of the way. If you're doing it just before you go to bed, there's 2 problems: Your body is at its lowest energy-wise, and you run the risk of going "fuck it, too tired, goin' ta bed".
