Which one is worse for you when you decide to pig out
-salty, anything with loads of salt. crisps, salted nuts, etc.
OR
-sweet, anything with loads of sugar, candy, soda etc.

I think both are awfully bad for your health. Still once a month I eat something out of these two categories. What affects my health the least?
>> Anonymous
>pig out

Which one is it? Between the two, I'd say you're better off with the sweet.

2nd option is far far worse, immense carb loading is quite possibly the worse thing you can do for your body aside from drugs and poison/toxins

WTF? Reading too much Atkins right?
Jesus Christ, I remember when everyone bitched about fat and now everyone bitches about carbs.
If carbs are so bad then why the fuck every elite athelete eats tons of them?
And besides, you still can "eat a lot of carbs" with chips.

i'm pretty sure elite athletes don't chow down candy and gulp down 32oz of coke every meal

and i'm pretty sure their only source of carbs would come from whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and some from dairy products if they did in fact consume dairy

Salt raises your blood pressure and makes you retain more water weight, but it's not only natural, but an essential of your diet.
Sugar is an artificial processed chemical, gives you diabetes, makes you fat, gives you zits and is an inefficient supply of energy that usually either makes you crash or gets stored as fat.

I'll take salt any day.

do you know how many carbs 100g is in healthy foods like vegetables? (fruits are always touted as healthy, but in reality they can be just as bad as anything else in excess)

1 cucumber - 11g carbs
10oz of spinach (10 fucking ounces) - 10g
small carrot - 5g
large celery stalk - 2g
broccoli stalk - 10g
small cauliflower head - 14g
1 whole fucking head of lettuce - 10g
1 medium onion - 10g

that's 73g of carbs, and probably more food than most people eat in a day

I think a lot of people here don't know that there is more then one type of carb.
Being vehemently opposed to loading on shit like gummies isn't being an Atkin's diet fag, it is just being logical.
The shit is made of crappy refined sugar, provides poor quality energy that doesn't last long and if your living a sedentary life then the exorbitant amounts of bad carbs your getting from it will make you chunky as hell.

Complex carbohydrates like you'd find in oats is slow burning energy, I eat 2 packs of Quakers natural with fruit an hour and a half before working out and shit works as well as loading on creatine. So fuck off.

Can you show me an elite athlete in any sport that eats a low-carb diet?
Please. I'm intrigued where all this people hide.
>> Anonymous
>>372281
The average person doesn't really need to care about fat-carb-protein breakdowns if they eat sensibly and balanced.

The reason why carbs are "bad" is because they are everywhere and its easy to eat a lot of them. Eating a lot of carbs is eating a lot of calories. A sandwich has 2 pieces of bread which is like, 120-250 calories depending on the bread. If you remove a piece of bread and eat it open face, its now "lower carb" and has "significantly less calories" simply because you're eating less calories by skipping the carbs.

You could just as easily remove the meat, cut the same calories, and call it low calories.

If you're fat, you're eating too many calories, period.

but by the nature of high intensity work, means the duration is highly limited....

so the body, at most, is utilizing strictly blood borne glucose and just a bit of the liver's glycogen (after breaking it down into glucose), leaving all the tissue stores completely untapped

with high intensity work, dont think of it as 'what is used DURING the work period' but what is utilized during the next 24-36 hours, in terms of metabolic substrate utilization.

tl dr: the body has much in the terms of storage. the brain runs on glucose and glucose alone, but the body has a variety of ways to maintain that indefinately, even in a low carb (not necessarily ketogenic tho) environment
>> Anonymous
>>372295

i don't know because athletes don't post their diets. but i'm sure they eat closer to 50% calories from carbs 25% calories from protein and 25% calories from fat. rather than the usual american diet which is 90% carbs and whatever ratio after that.

let me put this simple, it really doesn't matter what you do because either way your body has the energy stores to get it done.

whether you're lifting weights or running a marathon.
you don't need to eat a fuckton of carbs to do either. what you do need is to have a body that uses fats rather than carbs for energy, otherwise you won't be able to go very far in terms of energy depletion.

but most of the claims i made i believe in and they are working for me, so i will stay with it because 1) my sport requires more than 2 hours of consecutive effort 2) i have more energy after dumping a lot of my carbs and 3) at least some people agree with me that are respected among the strength and conditioning world

you can eat all the carbs you want, i don't care. probably won't help you, probably won't hurt your performance (other than the health effects which eventually come sooner or later) . i figure if i my ancestors got most of their energy from animal food, and they roamed the earth for millions of years thus creating our DNA it's got to be healthier to eat less carbs.
