So /fit/,
Fat fuck here (6'4", 268 lbs). I started working out about 1 month ago and have lost 7 pounds. About 2 weeks ago I started doing lots of push-ups.

However.. I need more core strength. My upper body is fine and I'm able to do the actual pushing up, it's much more difficult to keep my body straight. I REALLY feel it in my lower abs.

I'm looking for more ways to strengthen my lower abs. Crunches are working my upper abs and sit-ups are a pain to do alone.

Pic related. It's the muscles I want to strengthen.

Bicycle crunches and hanging leg raises. Or, regular leg raises. Regular leg lifts = Laying down on your back, keeping both of your legs together and then lifting them up in a 45 degree angle.

Crunches are a good start. Once you can do those well (IDK how out of shape you are) start doing sideways and reverse crunches. My absolute favorite ab exercise is planks though. If you can't hold a plank for at least a minute, keep doing crunches until you can.

Do you have access to a gym? Your core is more than your abs, so you should be deadlifting, SQUATZing, and OH Pressing for awesome core strength/stability.

But, onto ab specifics:

-Weighted crunches/situps. You can start with the weight on your chest, but the goal is to have the weight behind your head.

-Hanging leg raises. Start with hanging knee raises if you can't do the full leg raise into the pike position at first.

No, no gym access. So I'll start doing different kinds of crunches, leg raises and planks.

I guess I should rephrase my question to ask for more ways to strengthen my core, not just my lower abs?

Thanks for the help so far.

Stand in a pushup position, but rest your whole forearms on the floor. Hold. Hold. Don't drop. Count 20 seconds.

Too easy? Raise one leg of the ground.
Too easy? Hold one leg out to the side?
Too easy? lift one leg and the opposite arm off the ground, hold static for 30 seconds.
Volia. Basic core strength. Now get your fat ass into a yoga class.
