well i shouldn't have spoken with so much authority. i was told this by the guy at the vitamin shoppe where i was buying whey protein recently, i am new to working out as well.
he said go for a gram of protein per pound of bodyweight, so i need to get about 160 grams a day. it actually is a lot. but if you are thin and really want to bulk up you can't go wrong with the protein, right?
good luck at any rate. just make sure to eat well, get a lot of protein, and sleep well.

yes, quads and glutes= big muscles and compound exercises are all known for causing your body to produce a lot more testosterone. squats more than any other.
