Nutrients Anonymous
How many people in /fit/ actually keep track of their nutrient intake or consider it a top priority? You really don't hear people talk ANYTHING about it, losing weight or otherwise, even if it's such an essential part of health.

I don't keep track of my nutrient intake, but I do try to eat lots of healthy vegetarian options when I can.

Basically, does /fit/ think about the nutritional value when they consume something, or just the calories?

I focus on eating complex carbs, making sure I get enough calories, I drink a V8 every day, and I get my recommended serving of soluble fiber from oatmeal every day. I also try to pay attention to whether I'm getting enough protein, and I don't think about fruit (I like it enough that I eat a lot of it).

I can't stand V8 because of the sodium (and tastes nasty sodium-less) but I eat a Naked drink or Simply Orange Juice when I do drink juice.

Weird question: is the oatmeal good at keeping you regular?

More concerned about protein, to be honest. Scurvy isn't so bad, so long as I'm muscular.

That said, I take a catch-all multivitamin each day and pray that I don't piss most of it out.

I eat oatmeal every morning. I'm far from regular. In fact, people think I'm fucking crazy.

Try spicy hot V8. I can't drink the normal kind.
And I guess the oatmeal helps. I haven't ever thought about it.

Yeah that seems to be most of America. It's sort of like what my brother does and he gets sick so easily. :\ I wish my family would eat better considering we live in an area that has the highest cancer rate in the country.

The way I see it my priority when it comes to my body is HEALTH. So first I should worry about nutrition, second exercise, then fitness, then finally I'll worry about my weight. If I'm overweight then I'll worry, but I'm skinny. So... I should just focus on getting proper nutrition.

Dont' overdo it. I learned in college nutrition that the excess protein itself gets pissed out anyway.

I think if we switched our protein intake and split it up evenly with all our other nutrients and vitamins out there we'd all be a lot healthier.

Oh my god you speaka teh crazy.

Thanks for that, sometimes I feel like I'M the crazy one for focusing on actual health rather than appearance.. Though I'm skinny too.

I learned in college nutrition that we humans only have canines because the meat tasted good when we found dead burned animals

Actually, having a lot of protein does help, and doesn't "piss away."

"Consolazio et al. (1963) performed a study that compared protein intakes of 350% RDA (recommended daily allowance) to intakes of 175% RDA, and found that those atheletes consuming the former experienced greater gains in lean body mass.

Similarly, Dragan et al. (1985) found 5% gains in strength and 6% gains in lean body mass when the protein intake of Romanian weightlifters was increased from 275% RDA to 438% RDA. (Tudor Bompa, PhD "Serious Strength Training).

Once again, we have conflicting evidence from the scientific community. Based on personal experience, however, I'd say extra protein helps. As a beginner, I spent a year without any protein supplements, and made a constant but minor gain. I was also very sore. After I began taking protein, I made notice gains and I was much less sore.

Gorillas have canines too and they're vegetarians (accept for bugs).

Compare your intestine and sleeping patterns to a true carnivores sometime.

Athletes, I'm not gonna deny, and anyone with an active lifestyle does need more protein since they'll need more of everything since they're moving more.

But even then I'm sure too much past that point, as with anything in excess (you can even do it with water), can't be good.

Alright, if you don't need it you don't need it. But athletes and bodybuilders know of the health concerns of too much protein. They simply drink a lot of water to help the kidneys process it. Protein is good when consumed by the body, and becomes fat when not.

Whoever wrote this article needs to be shot for blatant and irredeemable idiocy. Where to fucking begin?

She doesn't know what a keto diet is. The bitch thinks keto diets have more than 30% protein. Could the bitch be stupider? Keto diets are at least 65% fat--the ketosis falls apart if more than 30% protein is used, BECAUSE PROTEIN CAN BE CONVERTED TO GLUCOSE AND USED AS BLOOD SUGAR. TOO MUCH PROTEIN AND THE BODY RESPONDS AS THOUGH IT IS CARBS. NO, THE BODY DOES NOT PISS IT OUT--PROTEIN IS FUCKING ENERGY.

Then she babbles her dumb ass about ketones dehydrating the body during a keto. BITCH, STOVE A COCK IN YOUR COCK HOLSTER, YOU IGNORANT SLUT. The dehydration during a keto is caused by chronic glycogen depletion in the muscles. EACH GLYCOGEN MOLECULE BINDS TO FOUR WATER MOLECULES IN THE MUSCLE TISSUE, THE LESS GLYCOGEN, THE LESS WATER RETENTION. Ketones do not factor into the dehydration, at all.

>Ideally, you should consume 0.36 grams of protein for every pound of body weight,

GAAAAAHHH!!! ARRRARRRGH!!!! RAAGGEE!!!

>Protein should also make up approximately 15% of your total daily caloric intake, also according to the RDA. In a diet of 1,800 calories a day, for example, about 270 of those calories should come from protein.

OH DEAR GOD A VEIN IN MY HEAD JUST BURST. I'M HEMORHAGING TO DEATH... RAAAWARGHHH!!!! MUST SQUAT ONE LAST TIME... CANT REACH... TELL MY SQUAT RACK I LOVE HER...

Not everyone is a body builder. 15% seems to low, but at least 1g protein/lb doesn't apply to everyone.

15% is what they teach in school, and if you live the typical American sedentary lifestyle it's all you'll probably need.

I have hyperthyroidism myself though, so there are plenty of cases where you might need a bit more. There's no need to have a PROTEIN EVERY HOUR ON THE HOUR mindset.

Also you learn that Atkins is shit.
