FUCK YEAH FISTS!

How do I roughen up my fists/hands? I can't do more than 3 push ups on my fists because my fingers feel like they're gunna break. Anything I can do about it?

Apparently you punch buckets with gravel in them.

Yeah, I thought about that.

Buy a leather heavy bag and punch the fuck out of IT first.

Punching buckets with your soft woman-hands is retarded.

are you doing them on your knuckles or fingers?

On my fists. My fingers are pushed into my palm and it just... fucking hurts.

Punch hot coal in buckets. That or thrust open palms into sand.

Sounds like you're making a fist wrong. If your fingers are digging into your palms, that's not right. The fingers should not be curled up like they are in the OP pic. They should lie more flat along the palm, facing back towards the elbow.

Curling them will only result in either breaking your own bones or cutting your palms with your nails. Also, most of the weight on your fist (both when punching and when doing push ups) should be on the index and middle finger's fist knuckle, ie the ones at the base of the finger, the top of the fist in the OP pic. Those are the strongest and most prominent knuckles. Therefore they are the best for supporting your weight for pushups and also for taking the impact of punches.

maybe use a wider arm span and keep the forearm straight during the pushup

Yes, the back of the palm should be even with the forearm for proper support. If your wrists are bending, that's wrong and you're going to injure yourself.

Push-ups on the KNUCKLES, not the FINGERS

Try closing and opening your hands fast with your arms distended . Do this like 40 times then rest.
i remember doing this when i studied karate

I always heard the pinky and ring finger knuckles were the most directly lined up with your arm bones, and are therefore the best to put weight on.

Of course this was with respect to punches, not pushups, but I'd think the principle would be the same.

Woah, whoever told you that is seriously retarded. The pinky and ring finger are the weakest of the fingers. If you punch with those fingers, you're in for a world of hurt and some shattered bones.

Nope. In Wing Chun and Jeet Kun Do chain punches are done using the middle, ring and pinky fingers.

The thing is you have to punch correctly, the fist has to be vertical, not horizontal like in boxing. When used in that position those three fingers are indeed in line with your forearm bones and elbow.

The middle finger is the best finger for punching with, period.

You can punch with the middle finger slightly extended (So that it connects with most of the force) and it'll be fine. (This is how you deliver an incredibly painful punch to the gut/etc.

Based on what?>>38324and>>38299(me) both got our info from Wing Chun, which is by no means the be-all end-all, but it does have some credence behind it.

In fact, the middle finger may be worst BECAUSE it is the most prominent knuckle. If it hits something that doesn't give, ALL of the force is transferred directly do it. When you aim your punches to land on the pinky/ring finger, the force is distributed among 3 different fingers. But that his hearsay on my part. Sounds like it has merit though...

keep doing pushups on your knuckles.

When I was training, we did countless sets of pushups on our knuckles and practiced punching bags of fine gravel. Conditioning takes time and gradual increases of intensity.

Even though it has been close to 10 years since I have stopped my training, my knuckles are still tough as nails

or sand, sand is better as it wont fucking tear or rip chunks out.

also do regular push ups, and i think you're doing knuckle pushups wrong. lean more on your knuckles and not your fingers.
work on your grip as well. i can hold those fucking 45 lb weights with a few fingers. :P
try squeezing shit like barbell collers or whatnot thats hard to close, open what not.
