hey /fit/, I need some of your worldly advice here.
I'm currently training to get into the marines. I'm a high school senior, and even though I'm 18 they're still making me go through the Delayed Entry Program due to my being in school. If I meet the physical requirements I go to recruit training July 13. (oh haha San Diego in the fucking summer.)
The thing is I'm out of shape. I love swimming and still do, but I've been lazy the last 5 months so my upper body strength is laughable. And so is my stamina actually.
I'm 5'4, and weigh 138, used to be 156 but a summer of swimming, volleyball and salsa killed the inner fatty. My schedule is fucked so I can sneak in meals thus bringing my metabolism to a grinding halt.
Any tips as to how I can organize my day to get in shape? I have 8 months, I'm just swamped with work, which is hardly an excuse. I've been eating right and avoiding fatty food, so I'm not stuffing my face and sitting on the couch. I'm nibbling apples while typing essays.

tl;dr: out of shape anon needs halp to not die in marine recruit training.
also, I seem to be needing 9 hours of sleep a night. Wtf is up with that shit?

Fatass stay out of the Marines.
I go to basic next summer and I've been working over a year to get in shape for it. Focus a lot of your time onto reading books about boot camp. Be sure to study very hard for your ASVAB test. The better you do on the that, the more choices you have to get the job you want.

I took my ASVAB on Wed. I scored an 89, but since I'm going into reserves I don't have many jobs to choose from. I already swore in on Thurs. after that clusterfuck of a physical. That MEPS center was worse than the DMV. (Medical lost my folder, apparently a male navy recruit is easy to mix up with a female marine-hopeful.)

Sucks. I'm hoping to score at least a 110. My dad used to be an officer marine and got a 1525 on his SAT's, so hopefully his help will pay off.

I went in blind. I'm amused I didn't get a 56 or such. My recruiter though I was kidding when I told him and congratulated me. My main worry now, aside from the workout, is telling my older siblings. Hope fully I can do it without my sister taking a swing at me and my brother demanding I leave it.

Just wondering, why did you choose the Marines? Should have done Air Force.

Many personal reasons, and when looking into the military it just felt..right.

Amusing thing, when I was getting my paper work done and I told some girls I was going into the Marines one of them said "Why? You're too pretty to be a marine, I mean you're not this huge manly dyke."
I said "thanks....?" and went on to gather my copies.
