ITT: We talk about protein/body-building supplements.

For the past few months, I've been using this whey powder that I buy from Wal-Mart called Body Fortress.

At my local gym, they sell this stuff called Muscle Milk and it costs twice as much as Body Fortress.
Is Muscle Milk really higher quality or is that just a price markup?
Also, in your use, what has been the most effective protein supplement you've used and how did you take it?

just eat chicken breasts

afaik you're at no advantage. protein is protein. you have to remember, lots of guys want a muscular body hence there is a market hence there is exploitation. that's why you get shit loads of rip-off products like 'muscle milk'

Body fortress is a cheap rip off of higher quality proteins. Like the guy said, when it comes down to it, protein is protein. Cytogainer is their weight gainer, i've used it with really good results and this is where I would draw the line. Cheap gainers are filled with sugar, fat, and cheap carbs so that is where you end up paying. Not sure the walmart protein guys put out gainer but I have some of their glutamine, used their BCAA's, and have some of their protein as a backup. Other than gainer and maybe creatine you can just stick with the cheap shit. If you want more protein just eat more food.

protein is not protein. There is a clear difference in quality and thus amino acid profile. I agree with you though that a lot of it is garbage and overpriced. Body fortress sucks, so does muscle milk

I take Muscle Milk and ON Whey/Casein. I recognize that Muscle Milk is filled with useless carbs and fats, but it tastes a hell of a lot better. I use it as more of a meal replacement when I'm on the go.

sir, what brand do recommend?

I use Max's Whey protein Isolate, seems to be working well enough for me. Previously I was on soy protein for a while but it tasted like shit and was rather lumpy. I have a muscle milk sachet lying around but am ambivalent about trying it, doesn't look great.

Body Fortress has artificial sweeteners, and nothing to boost the calories in it. It's about 100 calories per 24gms of protein, so it's not fantastic for gaining weight but it's nice if you're trying to get enough protein while cutting.

Muscle Milk has more caseins in it (6-8 hour digestion rate, so i would use it before bed and or throughout the day.

It would not be optimal for post workout, when you the fastest digestion rate, which would be whey, mixed with water. Follow this with the post workout meal. (within 2 hours of the workout)

ON 100% whey. just make sure you get the one without sucralose in it

I use ON 100% whey, it tastes better than the soy protein product i used before, but as the crisis comes, i'm thinking to get something more cheaper, but with the same result. Any ideas/advices?

this guy is pretty much dead on

i'd like to add that muscle milk is EXCELLENT before bed since it has a few different kinds of protein in it, fast and slow digesting (Whey/Casein). other than that if your compareing one whey protien to another, it's just what ELSE they put in it. cytogainer has carbs, creatine, good AA complex, i use it for post work out. ON is much closer to body fortress (i've used them both). I use ON more regularly and i've heard it has more amino acids (or a wider veriety) but that gets alittle above my head, i just know what works more me.

I wanted to add that i laugh my ass off every time i see some wanna be with his fat ass on the treadmills drinking teh premade muscle milk they sell at my gym. Muscle milk has no place in or around your workouts. It's good for throughout the day or before bed. DO NOT drink it before or after your workouts. I mean, you can, it just won't be as effective...

I don't know why there's so much hate on ON.

ON is not the best quality, but it's not like other stuff is so much superior.

If you are so worried about more BCAA, glutamine and other amino acids, just take them separately.

Anything by Body Fortress is trustable. I use their whey, and have went up by 20-30lbs on FBP using it.
