diastolic is the minimum pressure of your blood. basicly, (correct me if I'm wrong) it is a measure of how much drag there is in your blood vessels (read: irregularities, plaques, etc.)

systolic is your max blood pressure, it is a measure of how much additional pressure your heart applies to the bloodstream. Cardiovascular workouts will improve this number significantly faster than they will help your diastolic
