Does coffee have any negative effects for someone on a weight loss plan? I've had people tell me that it is, but they have not given any reason to support it, so I think they're just talking out of their asses.

What does /fit/ have to say?

P.S. I take it black.

it boosts your metabolism so I think it's the other way around.

It can mess up your stomach if you take too much though.

Crack and speed boost your metabolism, too. Doesn't make them good for you.

Caffeine is a legal drug and stimulant. The fact a lethal dose of caffeine is less than a lethal dose of cocaine should tell you something. It's not good even in small doses. It just throws off your body and gives you fluctuating, temporary energy and then withdrawals. Drink it too much and you start needing it every day just to stay regular...that's a bad thing. It also stains your teeth and kind of smells like poop while brewing and gives you awful breath...and it's terribly unhealthy if you take it with milk, cream, sugar, etc. And there really is nothing healthy in coffee, unlike tea which is generally packed with antioxidants and caffeine free.

There are better ways to regulate your energy and keep up your metabolism. It's called eating right and exercising.

Just remember, nicotine and fast food are legal along with caffeine. Doesn't make them a good idea. The funny thing is, both nicotine and caffeine have extremely low lethal doses, much less than any known legal drug or toxic substances like cyanide, yet they're both completely legal.

caffeine has what?! I hope you have some source that comprovates that.

also, milk and coffee is unhealthy?? how so? I'm talking skimmed milk here.

yes, coffee is a drug, and its addictive, i give you that but saying that and i quote "a lethal dose of caffeine is less than a lethal dose of cocaine" is just insane!

Drinking black coffee actually reduces your chance of having heart disease if you drink 1-2 cups black per day. I'll find the article and post it, but I know there's been more than just 1 source claiming this.

Also, tea almost always has a pretty good amount of caffeine in it. The only popular caffeine free teas are herbal teas.

Who still believes the hype about caffeine not being good for you? It boosts your metabolism, helps you prevent diabetes type 2 and heart desease, and actually is a necessity for people with slow digestion because it stimulates the production of stomach acid. In combining the effect it has on your metabolism and digestion with the fact that is makes the body release adrenaline and dopamine easier, its the perfeckt supplement for training and weight loss. Not "weight loss" - TRAINING AND weight loss. If you pump up some coffee in the morning before breakfast and go straight through a gerilja cardio, you will be seing results in two weeks.

Sources? National geo., alot of health magazines and websites, my own experience.

I always drink a cup of coffee after lunch. It helps me digest. I also drink one in the morning.

I seriously can't believe that some people are against fucking coffee. I bet these are the same people who say marijuana is better than smoking.

from wikipedia and erowid:
>The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on weight and individual sensitivity and estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass
>The median lethal dose (LD50) [of caffeine] given orally, is 192 milligrams per kilogram in rats.
>The LD50 of cocaine when administered to mice is 95.1 mg/kg
I couldn't find anything for humans though.

Long story short, you're full of shit. And unless you're pounding caffeine pills or in an all-day coffee drinking contest, there's no way you're going to OD on caffeine anytime soon.

The only way you're going to hurt your weight loss goals with caffeine is poor timing, or excessive usage. If you consume it too late, it could hurt your sleep, and you could gain weight that way. Otherwise, it's an outstanding way to boost endurance, and actually helps to metabolize fat during aerobic activity.

The average person would have to drink more then 100 cups of average strength coffee to OD on caffiene, and thats within a 6 hour window, because the half life of caffiene in the body is generally between 4 and 6 hours.

If you can drink coffee without adding sugar (milk is fine) and without it messing up your sleap schedule, its nothing but possitive. Hell, getting off of it is easy shit too, even If you drink 12+ cups of coffee a day, the worst you will get is a mild headache for maybe a day or two.

Energy drinks on the other hand ar BAD, stick to coffee and tea.

Black coffee is ok, cream + sugar will ruin your shit, especially if you go to some lil cafe and end up with a cup of 500+ calories.
