Plank time /fit/

Get off your chair, find a stopwatch/phone and see how long you can hold a plank with no cheating.
Weakfag here, 5'9 150lbs, and I just did 2 minutes.

go
>> Anonymous
I would, but then my boss would know I'm not really working, and would probably think I'm crazy.
>> Anonymous
looks like it would hurt my elbows and im not putting a bunch of towels on the floor, something not for faggots like a v-sit pl0x

How would one cheat at planks?
>> Anonymous

sagging

what's this good for?
>> Anonymous
I accept your challenge.

3 minutes, but I shook violently almost the whole time.

I guess that means I need to practice the plank more often?
>> Anonymous
Lol. You're all weaklings. I did like 10 minutes of this, before I just grew bored and stopped. Am I awesome? [Y/Y]

Of course, it probably helped that my gut touched the floor when I was on my elbows, though.

>>232019
They used this (+ lifting a foot every second) as one of the exercises to determine upper body/core strength when I joined the army.

Other than that I dunno. I guess core, but it isn't much of a workout, more of an endurance test.
>> Anonymous
i'll try it, i dont think i can get a lot tho.
post soon

310 pounder here.

Just did it for under a minute.

>> Anonymous

1 min 42 secs, I thought my abs are stronger than that by the way they look but i was shakeing when it was about a minute gone
>> Anonymous
>>232034
Swiss. The "fit test" as they called it consisted of the plank with foot-lifting, a 12 minute run and jumping with both feet from a standing position.
>> Anonymous
>>232039
Holy shit, same here (209lbs, 1:50)
Yet another disappointment in myself.
>> Anonymous
>>232042
Swiss army is complusory, yes?
As in, all males have to be in, have rifles, etc?
In your opinion, are the fitness tests hard?
>> Anonymous
what kind of workout do i get from doing the plank?
will it tone my arms or will it tone my abs?

does it do anything for the body at all?

just a curiusfag here
>> Anonymous
>>232067
Well they recently relaxed the rules so you could choose civil service instead, but it's basically mandatory yeah. Though you can choose to do it unarmed, in which case you have to do your stuff in a medic platoon I think.

I didn't think it was hard, but I asked beforehand what scores I'd need to pass (if you don't pass you have to repeat it after a few weeks) and stopped whatever I was doing when I'd reached the minimum score. If you want to be in the special forces or the MP or whatever you need high scores, but I chose the air force (chair force) so it didn't matter to me, and it's always better to avoid being noticed when you're in service, since they can force you to do NCO or officer training.

>> Anonymous
Just did this. First time ever. 13:40. Am I god?
>> Anonymous
>>232318
That sounds fishy. What's your height/weight and training experience?
>> Anonymous
>>232072does it do anything for the body at all?

You'll work your shoulders a bit, but it's mostly for your core. This is my favorite core workout. It works your abs, transversus abdominis, and your back.

If you want more of an arm workout then you can do it from a push-up position. I like to keep my arms extended for 30 seconds then bent for 30 seconds and continue this for as long as I can.

You can also do planks specifically to target your obliques. Just turn to one side and turn your forearm so that it is perpendicular to your body.

Quads actually gave out first after 2 mins but they were tired beforehand.

This was incredibly hard.
I had done these maybe last year sometime, though, and have been doing a lot of core strength exercise. So maybe the time is low, but if I kept at it and got used to it, I'm sure I'd be able to go a bit longer.

>> Anonymous
for fuck sake are you talking about ops pic?? or without the feet touching the floor at all??

cause that's what a planche is for me!

to do what is on op pic is easyer than with only your hands to the side of your body with elbows not straight. also, you can hold it like that for ages.
>> Anonymous
>>236357
Plank not planche you dumb shit.

And if you are so fucking good at doing a planche your hands won't touch the floor either.

I didn't feel anything in my abs, but my shoulders are weak as fuck and couldn't handle it.
>> Anonymous
5'10" 140, 1min 30 seconds. I felt it mostly in my lower back and abdomen. I didn't really shake at any point, my arms just got super tired and I gave up
>> Anonymous
make a triangle between your balled hands and your elbows, hands beneath your face, and make a plank out of your body on your toes. if you bend inwards or make a hill, you fail. you need to plank!
>> Anonymous
I can't plank for more than a minute. my arms shake and my abdomen hurts.
