Can we tax the fatties already?

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-388001/Shouldnt-tax-fatties.html

Sad that an article over 2 years old prettymuch hits the nail on the head as to why these whales should be taxed extra.

If you can afford to be fat as all shit, then you can afford to pay extra taxes to the government. It should be a god damn punishment to encourage your fat ass to go for a walk. Thats right. a walk. I know the fucking concept comes hard to some of you. And I expect RAAAAGGEEEEE at the idea of having to pay extra tax for being a fat fucking piece of shit. But this is what 90% of the world feels that isnt a god damn piece of all hungering, all consuming human shit.

Thank you.

A lot of fat asses read this type of shit and immediately RAAAGGEEEEE.

The "biggest" counter-argument I've heard is that "well it costs more to eat healthy".

This is true. The cost of healthy food is on average 30% more than fatty foods.

But heres where the argument the fat shits have comes crashing down.

How much does it cost to go outside? To go for a walk? To do situps? pushups?

It costs fucking nothing. The only reason your fat as fuck is because you want to be. And there should be a government mandated punishment for it.

Instate the god damn fat tax please. These fatties consume more energy with heating and cooling than people of normal weight, and thusly are a god damn burden not only to themselves, but all of society.
>> Anonymous
>"well it costs more to eat healthy".
The tax dollars will go towards making healthy food less expensive.

TRUTH. TRUTH. TRUTH. TRUTH.

Seriously. This board is full of smart people.
Thank god.
>> Anonymous
The only reason that it costs more to eat healthily (which isn't always true) is that this pathetic nation has gravitated toward food which is bad for you, and thus the production has become more efficient due to the demand for the product. Anyone who has taken an economics class would understand this under the name of "comparative advantage."

Taxing people for being lazy is fucking bullshit. The sad part is that I don't think you were trying to actively troll either.

Taxing people because their bad health will cost the government money in the long run? Sounds like a more legit excuse but then by those standards there would be a LOT of shit getting taxed.

I might possibly agree under the perspective that it actually DOESN'T cost more to eat healthy than to eat at fucking McDonalds. The only time where there is an exception is if you're so damn poor you have to buy ramen just to survive. Odds are you won't be having weight problems under such a scenario if you know whats good for you.

i'm not a fattie (6'0, 180lb) but giles coren (the dude who wrote the article) is. luckily anyone who reads that article and screams FAWWK YEAH TAX THE FATTIES based on the arguments presented in it is hopefully far too dumb to manage to make a difference.

i know this is just a RAAGGE FATTIESS GRRR thread but really the idea of taxing people because they're fat is completely impractical. in the end it's society's fault and society should bear the cost and make a difference to the next generation rather than make the victims of bad upbringings and education pay more tax.

still saging, you guys got trolled by the DAILY MAIL lol
>> Anonymous
>>202309

So basically what your saying is that you don't think it's your fault your fat?

Society MADE you sit in front of your PC, whoofing down double cheeseburgers and MADE you play world of warcraft from the time you woke up till the time you went to sleep? And that SOCIETY should bear the burden of your lard ass because they are the ones that made you fat?

No. Seriously. Just no.

Theres not an NSA agent in your home right now with a gun at your head forcing you to play WoW instead of working out.

Fatties should bear the burden of their own decisions, and it should be the judgment of society to punish these worthless sacks of overweight shit.

Fucking seriously, get off of your WoW and go the fuck outside.

woah, like i said, not a fattie (again, 180lb at 6'), calm down.

i guess when junk food started becoming popular the government could have stifled the growth of the major companies involved but government almost never does that, health risks or no.

either way, i was brought up to love healthy food and hate unhealthy food, i was always encouraged to be healthy and active and now my lifestyle reflects that. for those who weren't so lucky, i just think it's unfair that they pay the costs for a shitty upbringing.

for you, watching calories, exercising regularly and hating junk food is normal (i assume). for them, it would be completely alien and a complete paradigm shift. so yeah, while there isn't an NSA agent there, i would bet its pretty hard to change.
>> Anonymous
Even though i agree, i don't think its fair to tax all people overweight. I mean, lets face it, some people's genetics are very cruel to them. And what about those who are trying and strong but cant cut the weight? again, genetics.
>> Anonymous
The amount of unhealthy food that the major fatties buy to get to that weight level, would cost a shit load more than buying healthy food.

The ''Healthy food is too expensive'' argument is here-by revoked.
>> Anonymous
>>202341

Wrong. Unhealthy foods are readily available everywhere and often at cheaper prices too: IE McDonalds, etc.
>> Anonymous
>>202352

I know that dipshit.

My point is, the huge amount of calories they consume to become the major fatties would cost shit loads, even from somewhere cheap like McDonnalds.

Example:

Guy buys some salad and tuna pasta thing: £3

Major fattie buys two big macs, two fries, and a massive cola: £6 (even this is conservative on how much major fatties do eat)

It's very easy to blame it all on genetics. Very few of those fatties actually have those genes. And just because you have those genes doesn't mean you will be fat. It just means you have to put in a lot more work to have a healthy weight.

MOAR EDUCATION FOR TEH GENERAL PUBLIC ON HEALTHY FOOD CHOICES
>> Anonymous
Fat people need to eat less and exercise more. My roommate is not fat, around 180 5'8/9 but his goal is to lose weight. He has a gym membership but only goes like twice a week. Everytime we eat he has to serve himself regular portions and finish his entire plate. Later on he then complains that he isn't losing weight even though he's eating "healthier." I can't help but facepalm.

There should be a government mandate. Not just in the USA or in Euro nations or in Australia. But in every fucking nation.

There should be a government MANDATE that REQUIRES fatties to EXCERSIZE WHILE UNDER OBSERVATION OF A FEDERAL OFFICER for at least a few hours a week.
>> Anonymous
It may seem punishing to suggest taxing fatties extra.
But fatties should be punished, and they should feel as if they are being punished.
Maybe it would help them get off of their shit mmorpgs and into the fucking gym.
It would reduce their weight and increase their social skills
A fucking win/win situation.

Foods which make people fat are cheaper than healthy ones. Havn't you noticed how all the poor people are fat and rich people are slim?

The government subsidies the crops that are more easily processed into unhealthy foods so those foods are cheaper than healthy foods (despite being more complex) when they should be more expensive.

Your argument is invalid. Thats what you get for poisoning your mind with the daily mail.

I agree with this 110%. Anyone here takes a bus in NYC should know how it feels:

- fat bastards take forever to get on/off them, delaying the bus by seconds & even minutes sometimes.
- when there is a seat between 2 people, some idiot decides he or she is skinny enough to squeeze their 300+ lb frame in a space that is probably only 18-24 (guessing) inches wide. I had this happen to me once & luckily most of the people agreed + told her to get off & wait for another bus.
- when every seat is taken, same dumbass above thinks she is thin enough to stand up on the bus even though her fatass is blocking the aisle, adding to reason 1 as why the buses are late since everyone else is trying to slip by this elephant.

I rather walk these days during rush hour now or wait for an empty bus. Sick of these motherfuckers...

Yes but poor people don't have the same luxury as wealthy people.

Inb4 go walk around.

Yeah it's easy to say that when you are living in the suburbs where the crime rate is relatively low.

All I'm saying is more facilities like the YMCA should be placed around poor neighborhoods. It's not just the "fatties" faults it is also the communities fault for not doing anything about it.
>> Anonymous
i don't get it, so would healthy food be taxed for fatties too? That sounds counter-productive
>> Anonymous
Now this is a tax I can get behind. If only because it'll result in leftists and eco-nuts taxing the shit out of their ghetto pets and white trailer trash for "the greater good." Let them eat each other a live.

Not to mention the costs saved in welfare disability. Once poor fatties lose enough to drop their medical problems and inability to move, send social services knocking. They'll give them the stamp of approval to stop their checks and send the bastards back to work!
>> Anonymous
"I'm fat because of genetics" is completely ridiculous. I can buy that you're CHUBBY because of genetics, but jesus fucking christ you do not get morbidly fucking obese without eating 20 pizzas a day.

If I were Hitler, I would've waged the Holocaust against fatties.

Instead of killing them, I would've just sent them to concentration camps where the only food they get is the food they nutritionally need. Then I'd have them all ride fucking stationary bikes hooked up to electrical generators so they can help solve the energy crisis. I swear the electricity generated by all the fatties in every nation riding stationary bikes would probably be enough to shut down a fucking nuclear power plant.

Once they got skinny, they'd be allowed back into society to see their families or whatever. If they got fat again they'd just go straight back into the fatty camp. People would lose their weight real goddamn fast if they HAD to, so I don't buy this shit that they omgcan't it's so hard society failed me omg.

You don't fix a problem by force, idiots. This didn't work for prohibition, it isn't working for gun violence, it isn't working for drugs, excise taxes didn't stop smokers, etc.

With smoking, the taxes barely dented anyone with a decent job, and if someone was poor and smoked they just kept smoking and bought less of other things. Won't be any different with a fat guy and his fast food..he's going to stay fat and keep eating, he'll just spend less on something else.

You need to change society's views as a whole to remedy a problem like this. You first need to truly educate people on why it's bad to be obese, and then you need to actually make them UNDERSTAND why it's good to lose weight. Again, with the comparison to smoking, they put warning labels on the shit but it didn't stop anything, the same goes for overeating...all these campaigns and commercials about healthy living are going largely ignored because these people have developed an emotional addiction to food. There is too much "Go exercise for 1 hour and eat vegetables" and too little showing people the true effects of shit like diabetes and heart disease. Basically, our government just goes around saying "HURR ITS BAD DAWG", but they aren't giving a serious enough example of just how badly obesity related illnesses affect you.

I guarantee if they could somehow mimic the feeling and pain of a heart attack and have people be exposed to it, you'd get a lot more people willing to change.
>> Anonymous
>>203399

Food is just a crutch to mask more serious social and emotional problems that people develop these days. Drugs, video games, alcohol, etc. are all used as crutches for similar reasons. It's not the substance, it's the people...but you can't just force them to stop it immediately, that is not how you cure an addiction.

Just when I thought /fit/ couldn't be any more pathetic and elitist, this thread shows up.

Some people have psychological issues about eating. Some people are addicted to eating much like being addicted to cigarettes. Some people have weak wills or simply enjoy working out.

Apparently you think these people aren't human anymore? They're lower than you and your superior fitness obsession?

Shut the fuck up. No one should be taxed for their way of life. Plus, in the United States they won't be taxed. You know why? Discrimination.

Yes, discrimination charges. Guess what, it's not going to change either.

>Plus, in the United States they won't be taxed. You know why? Discrimination.

So far it isn't working that way. Airlines already charge fatties more for taking up two seats. Fat people are easier to discriminate because being fat they take up more space and weigh more.

Don't expect things to change any time soon. Nobody feels much compassion for fatties unless they're trying to lose weight.

Well, the way this thread started out and how it's been going it's not that hard to see. Mandated work-out sessions? High taxes on convenient (if not unhealthy) food? They're suggesting stripping away a lot of what they have. It was supposed to over exaggerate the issue and the lunacy of the plans suggested.
>> Anonymous
>>203770
Lol we don't discriminate in the US? Cigarette taxes discriminate against those who smoke. Alcohol taxes discriminate against those who drink. Do you think food taxes are far behind? Basically they start by demonizing a particular group in the media till the average person who isn't a member of that group thinks it's OK to single them out, first it was drinkers, now it's smokers, next it'll probably be fatties.

When they came for the drunks I remained silent; I was not a drunk.
When they came for the smokers I remained silent; I was not a smoker.
When they came for the fatties I remained silent; I was not a fatty.
When they came for me there was no one left to speak out.

My aunt has "mental" problems, she's well over the weight limit for a healthy adult. I frown and try to help her.

She doesn't try to do any exercising, or tries to do the minimal without wanting to sweat. I call her lazy.

But then again she drinks milk and eats without much care in the world. I shrug and call her fat and hate being around her.

Why is she just not "Fat"? Because there's people at the gym that work out that are big people. They may be big, but hell, they're in the gym and taking classes or doing anything beyond sitting infront of the Television all day. It doesn't have to be at the gym either just walking further or taking a walk in the morning/day helps.

I feel sad for the big people that eat right and less and try to loose the weight. I don't shed a tear for those that try to scoff off their weight on "Genetics" or "Cause it's cheaper" while sitting around eating/sleeping and doing minimals. My Aunt, god bless her heart, she's in the latter portion.

I do think they should tax overweight people in some aspect.

I think a less rediculous thing to do would have some type of tax deductions for healthy activities (IE government discounts for gyms, classes, pool memberships, etc.) It would encourage people to be healthier by making it cheaper to do so. I also think encouraging unorganized sports would greatly imrpove alot of people's health. I'm not talking about school teams or rec leagues. The problem with those is that they are competitive and cause the fat and unhealthy people to dislike sports. Allowing kids to go out and play some football without parents yelling at them and telling them what to do encourages them to continue playing.
