Dear /fit/,
About 3 months ago I lost the means to eat regularly, which was followed closely by the desire. Over the last month or so, I haven't been eating everyday, and some days I haven't even been hungry. Point is, I've lost about 40 pounds this month, but until today I haven't had any other ill effects. I haven't eaten since Thursday, and today I have had no energy and generally felt like crap. I tried to eat some bread, but I couldn't manage to finish more than 1 slice. My pulse has dropped to 45-50 bpm, and I can't feel my heartbeat unless I've got my fingers on the neck, and my joints and kidneys are sore. Should I be concerned?

How concerned? Like, go to the hospital concerned, or just eat and sandwich concerned?

That's the thing, I'm pretty active. I sell door-to-door, I jog a couple of times a week, and do a pretty mild workout almost everyday (Just push-ups, sit-ups, squats, etc.), I play HFS a couple of times a week, I sleep 6 hours or so per day, and until today I haven't had any problems. Today I've been lightheaded every time I move around, plus the aforementioned aches and pains. I'm just wondering if my metabolism has decided to kill me, or if it sounds like space parasites or what. I don't know. Ideas?

You lost 40 pounds this week, you're starving!
Start with eating something easily digestable like soup and then slowly work your way up.

And then start eating at least 2000 calories a day.

That's the tricky bit, isn't it? I don't really have food. I mean, it pretty much comes down to electricity or food every month, and like I said, I've kinda lost my appetite. I spent about $30 on food last month, and about $10 so far this month, and I'm running out. Plus I'm in Texas and it's hot as hell in the summer.

Also, the 40 lbs. was over the last 3 or 4 weeks, not just 1.

Damn man, that sucks. I hope you can get out of that situation.

I learned this from a penny saving friend of mine.
Go to Burger King or something and get a 99 cent burger. (Rodeo Burger is pretty good at BK)
For a drink, ask for a cup of water (It's free)

It's not as bad as all that. I mean, I'm happy, and I rarely actually get hungry. I've got friends, I just don't mention the not eating thing. And still the question remains, do I need to just try to force myself to eat more and work my way back up, or do I need to do something faster? Get vitamins or shots or something? How close do I sound to severe renal failure?

Sorry, I meant month. Don't you have parents or friends who can help you out? You're about to die, son.

Also, exactly how much food is 2000 calories? I hear that this is like, the magic number, but looking at what I eat, I average about 300-500 and I'm full.

No on the family, yes on the friends, but I don't bring it up because I don't want to be a mooch.

2000 calories=4 BigMacs
Your body needs about 2500 to keep its weight.

Better to be a mooch, than to be found dead.

Just say "Hey, do you think I can have few cans of soup? I'm in a real jam right now, and I haven't eaten in a month"

DON'T DIE SON.

Wow. Get some kind of help. Know who else used to eat 500 calories per day? People in Nazi concentration camps.

I still eat. Just not that much. I did go home a couple of weeks ago, and my brother freaked out at how I looked. I hadn't seen him in 6 months or so. But the thing is, he's the only family I have, and he's just a broke as me except he also has to take care of a baby. So no, I'm not asking him for anything. Most of my friends are crazy deep in debt/living off/with their parents, so I don't really feel ok with asking them for stuff. Now, I did have an awesome boyfriend, 32, he was a history teacher and everything, he mostly took care of me while I did my college stuff, but he had to move off kinda suddenly in January, and I didn't have a decent job or anything, hence my predicament. I have, however managed fairly well so far, I'm almost done with school (which will greatly ease the financial burden and free up more time to work), and then I'll be shiny. Sorry, I got kinda rambly there. My next question is how to go about regaining an appetite. Would lots of bites here and there throughout the day work, because I can't really sit down for a big meal or anything.
