Look, what was I supposed to do, start in some itty-bitty hole someplace in niggertown and go streaking up there at 12:00 at night?

argos is where i bought my first set. got some cast iron york dumbells for £25. they have vinyl ones too, and they're all adjustable spinlock combination thingys.

errr
failing that, if you're REALLY poor, get sandbags, or those massive 8-pint milk jugs filled with water or dirt.

personally, I use metal weights or the cheap plastic sand-filled variety... I have no knowledge of any "vinyl"... so I can't give a suggestion as to the superiority of one

Wtf..I wrote out a long reply but it didnt post.

Anyway..OP, go to JJB Sports. They can order in a cast iron barbell+dumbbell set for £65. I got a fiver off by buying a weight bench from them at the same time. You can see both on their website.

Thanks for the input, but I'm not able to pay £89.99 for 50kg of weights. I think Argos is the primary option thus far.

They are not £89.99, they are £65 delivered to the store.

i.e. Go to the store, and get them delivered to the store, for free. You just then have to collect them from the store
