If the water is cold, or even cool, you're probably throwing yourself into shock. When you drink large ammounts of water, which when cool absorbs quite a bit of heat, your core body temperature changes rapidly because you're already overheating, and now you've introduced a huge heat sink. Even a change of far less than 1 degree F in a short period of time completely throws off your blood pressure and can make you feel very very sick.
I always drink my water after cooling down, and never cold. Try it and see if that helps.
