Greetings /fit/! I have finally gained the courage to enter these parts. Hurray for me!

I am a short and chubby chick looking to start losing some of the poundage. I'm extraordinarily motivated and just plain tired of being fat!

5'5 200lbs (20 year old college student)

I've already started running a tread, but I know jackshit about what else I can do to lose all this fat.(thighs, tummy, butt, dreaded second chin, etc) I don't really eat that much (under 800 calories a day) so I don't think that's of much concern. But I could be wrong. PLEASE HALP!!!

Weights!
Do what you can, don't try to lift what guys are doing or anything like that but do weight enough to make your muscles burn. Also water, you'll be sore either way, but water helps remove lactic acid faster which results in less time being sore.

I'm fat cause I don't do anything. I'm a lazy motherfucker and avoid any strenuous activity. Well, actually I have mild asthma so it makes sense, but I'm tired of being fat. No excuses for me anymore. It's getting retarded.

I eat mostly soups, fruits (I am an orange junky), saladsm various meats and the occasional piece of pizza, but I guess I could bring up the calorie intake a bit. I always forget there is such a thing as GOOD calories.

Adopt seafood into your diet, learn 2 eat fish.
Eat a large portion of veggies before biting a piece of meat. Also drink water, youre 200lbs, youre going to have a fast enoug metabolism to lose the weight.

Treadmill will fuckup your ankles. Use an elliptical machine at a good setting until you drop about 40lbs. THEN you can treadmill.

I hate fish, but I'll do it, goddammit! I do eat tuna every now and again when I go to my sister's house, but it's usually with mayo, so that's no good. I don't drink soda and candy is a big no-no since I'm obsessive over my teeth and not getting cavities.

I do not currently have a gym membership and since I barely have enough money to buy gas, will not have one anytime soon. I use my mom's treadmill and I have a pair of 5lb weights so that's all I have to work with. But there's a very nice park nearby and I walk there often. Anything else I can do without new gym equipment?

Constantly eating 800 calories per day risks severe complications right up to sudden death and is used to make very fat people lose weight quickly. Even disregarding that, if the OP does work on a treadmill the physical energy to do that has to come out of somewhere. Much more likely that OP is not being careful, not factoring in snacks, chocolate or alcohol or plain old prettying things up for themselves than that they're breaking the laws of physics.

I calculated what I ate yesterday and it came out to 825 calories. Two cans of Progresso soup, a nectarine, and a yogurt. I really don't eat that much and the only time I eat pizza is when I'm out with friends. I don't have a taste for fast food.

Today I brought it up to 1300 or so and nearly puked my guts out. Too much food.

here's the truth about eating so few calories a day while trying to lose weight:
it won't work. your body goes into starvation mode (as said above) which actually slows down your metabolism so that you live longer, thus making it harder to burn calories.
if you learn to eat correct proportions of healthy food at least 5 or 6 times a day (not meals, more like large snacks) then you'll have a constant metabolism, and if you stay low in calories, and eat food that has a low glycemic index, you'll stay full longer while also burning more calories.

WHEW!

if you get bored of water, Naked Juice is really really good too. and no added sugar or anything.

We've got an orange tree in the backyard so I squeeze it myself. Nice and fresh and de.li.cious. But I'll keep that name in mind.

no problem. you might want to invest in a gym as well, unless the 5 lbs are doin it for ya. i go to 24-hour and it's only $24 a month and apparently with sign up you get 5 personal fitness meeting with a trainer, so that should really help you get started.
i'd also invest in an underarmor sports bra, if you can find one that fits. nothin like havin your boobs trying to escape while you're trying to look like you're cool doing free weights hahha..

Good for you for taking some initiative but you need to COMMIT. Don't stop your program once you start.

Some basic tips for you:

-Weightlift (even though you are a girl weightlifting is very good for weight loss; no you will not look like a guy)

-Don't only eat 800 calories a day. Thats not enough go for like 1500. about 20% fats, 35% proteins, 45% carbs

-Do HIIT (high-intensity interval training)

I would recommend weightlifting 3 days/week (i do stronglifts 5x5) and doing HIIT afterwords with some cardio on rest days.

Good luck, and don't stop your program it takes a bit to get results, but will be worth it.

Well, shit. Only a few months ago one of my friends invited me to join her gym. Friggin 80 dollars a month or so and that didn't even include the pool. I really like swimming so that totally pissed me off. I'm sure there're cheaper around, but my mom just got laid off so I'm saving every penny I can to pay the bills. Maybe when the economy isn't a stinking pile of shit. (Here's hoping that day ever comes)

Thanks for the tips. I'm putting them on notepad and printing them out. haha. I've got various notes tacked all over the house telling me "WORK OUT YOU FATTY" and such. Guess I'll have to put up that says, "EAT MORE! YOURE STARVING YOURSELF, STUPID!"

I think its safe to say I wont be quitting anytime soon. I ran for about 15 minutes last night and sure my legs are a little sore, but I have a high tolerance for pain. And drugs work well too. (Of course I'm kidding). But seriously, I've got motivation up the wazoo. It's amazing.

I miss that. I realize how fat I've gotten. How pathetic I've gotten and how LAZY I AM! I want to do the things I love again.

And it's not like I suddenly decided one day to stop. I started losing it about Junior year when I broke my leg. And then my other leg. I had to slow down and somehow got stuck there. I'm really mad at myself and honestly I AM BETTER THAN THIS. I have much more respect for myself. Knowing that, and knowing the person I used to be is what will keep my fat ass moving.

You only start losing weight after about 20 minutes of intense exercise...

15 minutes won't do *anything*

Try cycling, it is non weight bearing and very good at dropping the weight.

I used to ride 25km (15 miles) per day after work and then 50km (30 miles) per day on the weekend.

Lost heaps of weight.

I went *flat out* when I was riding, basically exhausted the whole way. That is how you lose weight. It actually isn't easy to lose weight.

So 15 minutes doesn't cut it and you better be exercising to exhaustion.

Learn to enjoy the pain, that's what I did. The pain releases your endorphins and makes you feel good. Then you get addicted to the endorphins instead of the food. Substitute one addiction for the other.

Keep in mind, I've not done anything strenuous for about two year now. I've got to take baby steps so I don't totally hurt myself. As soon as I can do 15 without giving, I'm going to notch it up to 30. And so on and so on. Pain is my friend, but not so much when I'm cramping so hard I can't stand up straight. Though, that might be kind of funny to see.

You should take a before an after pic of yourself. Post your before here if you want for extra encouragement and then post your after picture to show us your improvement.

I've always found it better to have someone else seeing how you progress. In fact, take a before and after pic every 2 weeks. When you feel discouraged about doing the work, just look at a before pic and an after pic; it usually encourages me to finish the fight.

800 calories is too low. eat way more, but avoid carbs and sugar. a low carb diet will induce keytosis and burn fat very fast. as long as it has no carbs, eat as much as you want. more food will help you put on muscle.

consider becoming vegetarian. it seems to help people with weight control. eggs, dairy, fish and enriched flour/cereal are necessary for dietary b12.

do five push-ups instead five times over the course of the day. your muscles won't be as sore, and you'll end up doing 25 push-ups over the day.
