You need at least 7 hours a night.

Poor sleep leads to poor mental function. I know it may sound odd but I turn a fan on every night even when it's cold because the white noise it produces keeps other sounds at bay. I also tried listening to artists like Sleepresearch_facility and found it easy to fall and stay asleep. Just find what works for you, keep a tight schedule 6/7 of the week and take short naps on your days off work.

And then there are people who get by on 3 hours of sleep. Some people have methods where they sleep 15 minutes at a time every 2 hours and claim they suffer no ill effects. I would like to do this too but it isn't for me since I don't have an accommodating job. The theory is that your body will adapt to the frequent brief naps by falling into REM sleep faster.
