I'm female. About 5'5" and 145 pounds. Roughly 20 pounds overweight. Within about the last year, I started off at around 150, crash dieted down to 120, then gained it all back. I was stupid and wanted fast results, so I was eating two meals per day and about 300 calories between the meals, so I was basically going ana. I got to my desired weight and put it all back on very quickly just eating regular, healthy foods because my metabolism was messed up so badly.

I need to try it again the right way. I'm going to commit to the "five meals per day" plan to keep my metabolism going constantly and I'm going to stick to briskly walking four miles a day. I was told I need about 1,200 calories per day to just maintain weight as a female. Would it be a good idea to make each of my five meals consist of 150-200 calories? So I'd basically eat around 1,000 calories per day and be in a deficit of 200 calories on top of what I'd burn from walking. I already know to avoid sugars and junk like that, I'm planning to eat a lot of high fiber cereals and lean meats and seafood.

1200 kcals a day, really? Apart from the numbers seeming really low, you're doing everything right. Eat some veggies and fruit, too.

I dunno. I was reading this nutrition info booklet at my aunt's house that came with her Bowflex, and it says women need between 1200 and 1400 calories to maintain weight, on average, and that you should cut that down by about 200 and supplement it with cardio and light muscle training.

I plan to do a smidge of weight training, but just with like five pound weights because I don't want to build muscle or anything.

My problem is I know how to be a stupid bitch and starve myself to lose weight, but I've never really been able to keep a healthy diet, it's always been starving or lazy binging. A big problem is when I do lose weight from crash dieting, I get terrible skin problems and stuff, so I really want to be able to attain a healthy diet and stick with it this time. I'm 20 now and I think it's about time I started acting more like an adult with my diet.

My goal is to lose 20 or 25 pounds over the course of the summer, which I think is attainable. I've honestly never tried the plan of multiple small meals per day seriously before, because the one time I tried it I felt like I was overeating. I'm starting this tomorrow morning and I'm going to eat like 150-200 calories every three hours and try to keep this plan for the entire summer. I'm hoping it's gonna work, because I know full well that starving yourself just leads to other problems and your weight usually plateaus a lot from a slow metabolism.

I guess the numbers seem low, but a woman's body really doesn't need as many calories.
