/fit/, whats the best martial art to learn?

i dont want to do karate or any of that pussy shit, but the kinda things you learn in the army, like full on heavy punches and kicks and learning about pressure points and all that? :S

Actually, Aikido, even though it might seem pussy shit to you. Or maybe Hapkido, which is kinda a cross between aikido and taekwondo. Taekwondo (the ITF stuff, not the WTF bullshit) is full-on offence but you don't get taught about submission.

On another note, lern2Parkour.

I'm going to have to disagree having trained in a little muay thai and a few other back when i was interested in martial arts (have since had no time to do it seriously) I found muay thai to be less "self defense" oriented, and I think OP wants something like the military uses? Like, self defense, real world situation type stuff. Muay Thai kickboxing is like...sparring basically. Self defense versions of it are for women who basically learn really good form...to kick you in the nuts. I stand by krav maga.

In the army? They teach you pretty much jack shit as far as unarmed stuff goes. And if you wanna do KM by all means go for it, but I'd take something else on the side because every place I've seen doing Krav had way too much situational bullshit going on...

But then its best to just look for what happens to be good in your area.

You need to go to a bar in a bad neighbourhood, find the meanest motherfucker in there. Become friends with him, and have him teach you some moves. Im talking about kidney-punches and shit.

Please tell Danny. He's still teaching it in California

Krav Maga.
But most schools teach a watered down version of it.

Sambo. But good luck finding a teacher in America.

My father-in-law swears by ninjitsu. But he was specforces and did serious intense shit.

I never recommend just one martial art. Its good to mix it up a bit taking pieces of different martial arts and using them in your fighting style.

tl;dr Jujitsu and Muay Thai

These threads are always hilarious.

Muay Thai, Jujitsu. If you find a *brilliant* teacher, Krav Maga, but not worth it otherwise.

Srsly, we should get a sticky about this or something.

there's a rare style called kaja kimbo. If you can find it, it's fantastic, especially my teacher... he pushes us to the limit

aikido = fucking awesome

you use your opponents force against them! it's pretty cool how you can defeat 10 people at one go.
