Hey /fit/

Exercise newbie looking for advice here. I've been trying to regain the fitness of my teenage years for several months now, but always end up giving up due to the dreaded squat:

Every time I try to do some squats, they seem fine at first but after ten or so my knees start hurting, then they continue hurting for the next three days or so and by then I've completely given up on exercise all together because I've been unable to run or do any leg activity.

Has anyone on /fit/ had knee pains when attempting squats, and how did you adjust your squat in order to fix it? I'm hoping its just my technique, so a little advice would be good, but if my knees continue to hurt I will have to see a doctor if it happens again.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone? Please help, I'm getting desperate.

It's because you're squatting improperly. Keep your weight on your HEELS not your TOES!

stronglifts.com has a lot of really great articles on how to properly squat. I used to have bad knees but deep squats (full squats? past parallel) have made them stronger. Also your flexibility is probably poor, not allowing you to go down as far.

You'll probably find all the answers you need there pal. Good luck (:

you shouldn't be squatting ten times anyway

sets of five until your body is used to them

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I only plan to do body weight squats (at least until I leave the town I live in for a place that actually has a gym) seeing as I'm too cheap to buy weights.

Still recommending five? How much time in-between sets?
