I suppose... I don't go to the gym. My routine consists of about a total hour of cardio (jogging and walking) per day and that alone supposedly burns half of what the OP lost in 2 hrs at the gym. I probably assumed a gym would do a lot more than that.

Then again, i'm new to this shit, and also didn't consider body types and gender.

Unless your extremely wide/large/fat/etc., it's highly unlikely that you'll burn 1,000 calories in an hour of just jogging/walking

2 hours to burn 500 cal? I burn 1,000 by doing an hour of various cardio. And then I lift some. So who knows how much I actually burn.
