sup /fit/
been lurking for a while, and this is my first thread.
trying to lose some weight, male, 6", 235lbs and pretty much fat. played football in hs, but stopped working out completely, but kept eating like it was still in-season. ballooned from healthy 185lbs(w/ mussle) to 235lbs (no musslz)

would it be a good idea to start biking with HIIT? 30sec intense, 60sec normal? what kind of foods do i stay away from? how much water should i drink? any advice is strongly appreciated. would like to bulk up, but strength isnt my goal. goal is to go back to 170-185lbs. how many months would this take for an average joe?

if you played football in highschool you should know how to train and get in shape.

also, how did you go from hs football player to 4chan lurker? that's a funny transformation.
>> Anonymous
OP here, yea but we just ran around and i hate running, lolz. not all football players are meat heads. =/

anyone have any useful info?

sounds like bullshit to me. highschool football teams more than just "run around," though if you want to lose weight then that's all you really need to do.
>> Anonymous
of course its more than just that, i just didnt want to go off topic. im just looking for tips and advice to help me drop the pounds. dropping 40lbs is no easy task, and need all the info i can get. i'd liek to hear from some other former-fatties' advice.

You could probably lose 2 pounds a week if you eat right and exercise. HIIT wouldn't be a bad plan, start out with the 30 sec HI/ 60 sec LI. Once you get into your split keep raising your HI times and keep your LI constant.

As for foods to avoid I would stay away from soda, shitty carbs (chips, deep fried anything, white bread) Try to eat as clean as possible.

http://www.thedailyplate.com/

Site can help you track your intake. I'd recommend to take most of your calories in from protein and fat. Try to keep carbs down to about 20% of your daily calories to start with. Eat clean carbs like oats in the morning to fuel yourself.

Water intake, simple bro- 1 gallon per day.

If you are gonna get back in the gym I would give this split a try-

http://www.animalpak.com/html/article_details.cfm?ID=46&section=training%0A

How do you plan to bulk up with out getting stronger?

How many months would it take to get back to 185? How long did it take you to get to 235? It will take at least that long, but you will notice results in the first month if you stay true.

what exactly is "split" sorry im a n00b.
I'd recommend to take most of your calories in from protein and fat

^did i read that right? protein makes sense, but fat?

also, my diet has been really shitty filled with fastfood/junk food/sodas. should i try the "Master cleanse" for 10 days before starting my exercise regimen? i figure i can lose about 3-5pounds of pure "gunk" out of my system.
and one last thing, what does /fit/ think about diet soda? i love soda. =(

/fit/ is more helpful than i thought.lol No.269742,your advice and info is greatly appreciated.

Holy shit, OP. You are going to crush her! O_o;;

haha fuck you. she will be AFTER i lose the weight.

split is just a workout schedule.

Yes fat- good wholesome fat! You think cavemen were ever obese? Hell no. They didn't have all of the wonder bread carbs and high fructose syrups that we have in our diets today. They ate animal meat and fat with mixed veggies and shit.

It's real simple- we were taught since we were young that most of our calories should come from carbs. So we eat carbs, but carbs won't keep you full- you digest them and break them down into sugar and use them as energy. But since carbs don't keep you full, your body thinks that it needs more and that's where the fat happens. Your glucose stores (energy reserves) are actually full but you feel like you still need to feed. If you eat more carbs they are then stored as fat (back up energy). Eating good fats, like the ones found in peanut butter, olive oil- will only benefit weight loss. It will help keep you full and you won't eat as much junk.

If you really want to become a fat burning machine you can, it's called a Ketogenic Diet. High protein, high fat diet. No carbs or sugars at all (except for veggies)- if you try this you will feel like DICK for the first week because all of your energy stores are being drained and you aren't refilling them with carbs. So once your energy stores are completely drained guess where your body starts to get energy from?Your body can burn fat as its main source of energy, by producing ketones. It takes a lot of will power to stay on a diet like this because if you cheat and eat single stank ass dorito, it could throw your body out of fat burning ketosis.
Diet soda is alright- as long as it is sugar free. I'd go light on it though, say one a day. If you really can't hack the gallon of water a day- go get some crystal light.

Glad to help. I'll try to answer any questions you got and good luck!

viral marketting.

It would be viral marketing if he said Atkins or the other ones out there. 'Ketogenic' is the catch-all term for high protein, low carb style diets.

Way to spell there Webster. Who am I marketing for? Crystal light right?

Not many people can keep this up for very long. Our bodies need that extra energy that is stored by carbs to live. Why do you think you feel like shit that first week? It's because your body is saying "Goddammit, where is my energy? I can't function without it." Eating carbs is good for you, just make sure that you get fats, like this person said, OP, as well as those awesome proteins. Proteins keep you full also.

One more thing: FIBER. It's the shit. They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away because you won't be going to the doctor with diarrhea problems if you get your fiber (one medium apple has five grams fiber, or one fifth of your daily supply).

I did Atkins in true form for about 4 months, and for weight loss it was great. Reality was that I felt crappy due to the lack of bursting energy. I was living, burning fat, etc - but it really felt like I had aged a lot while on it.

I did it pretty hard core, limited myself to 20 carb grams a majority of the days. Pretty tight, given that even a small salad has 3 or 4, 1oz cheese or an egg has 1.

Other than the lack of energy thing, another negative was the stank breath it gives you when you are into heavy ketosis. The people that knew and loved me said it smelled like I was shitting out of my mouth. Atkins addresses this by saying you should then take in more carb grams daily to go to a lighter state of ketosis. Ehh.

To the anon that said even a dorito will remove you from ketosis - wrong. mostly. Your body will always burn the easiest form of energy, which is carb stores (glycogen I think?). Any carb intake while in ketosis gets gets burned first. That chip or handful won't take more than moments to burn. I remember binging on some amazing birthday cake while I was Atkinsing. I took me sometime less than 48 hours to regain ketosis (as verified by urine strip test). So Atkins cheats should/could be followed with exercise to burn off the carbs.

To the Fat OP: KISF. Don't make a lot of huge changes, you'll never keep to the plan. Drink water, exercise better/more, and eat better.

I like other anons am curious as to why an ex-football player doesn't know. I would think a meathead would know how to pack muscle on. More muscle means more calorie upkeep. Maybe you were a bench player? Maybe you only jerked off to high school football players? Whatever.

Not sure why no one has mentioned it, but squats are favored here, and the stronglifts 5x5 is the favored plan. I do not follow this personally, but others have and like it.

Thanks No.271371 and "BC". I'll look more into this "fat-burning machine" diet. Its not that I don't know how to lose weight, its im looking for the most EFFECTIVE way, so i can lose it faster. But thanks for the advice, i always thought the Atkins diet was a bad thing, but seems to work fine for anon.
Anyways, an all protein/little carbs diet would be beneficial for HIIT, since its not really long distance running, not like a marathon. and with the high protein diet, i can work out, build muscle and burn calories while i sleep.

OP again. gift to helpful anon and BC

op, here is what i would do if i were you
a) diet
you have basically two choices
you can do some sort of low carb diet
that will be faster, but you may feel like shit doing it
or you can do a normal clean diet
it will likely be slower, but there is less risk of you feeling like shit
if you choose the low carb path, look up the anabolic diet and do it (i think you can the book on mininova)
for normal clean diet feed the muscle burn the fat should be usefull (rapidshare gets posted here every so often)

b) exercise
first find starting strength and do it
on your off days do some light cardio

what do you mean you felt like you "aged" from the diet.
like the diet/regimen was so tough it felt like u went through hell?

say i did this protein/nocarb/veggies/fiber diet + HIIT + SQUATZ+working out

how long realistically would i be sticking to this diet? 6months if i stayed true to the regimen, would i expect to hit 180-200lbs? if u forgot, i weight ~235lbs at the moment.

The last word on keto diets is Lyle Mcdonald. He has has a few other good diets. I'm on the Ultimate Diet 2.0 myself.
