Hey /fit/.

I regularly work out in the nearest gym, and do a lot of weightlifting in my routine.
The other day I was pushing it a little harder than I usually do, just to see how far I could push myself. Note that I'm usually very careful, and always stretch etc. beforehand.

This time something went wrong. Something felt wrong in my left elbow.
Every since that time, whenever I try to lift a free weight with my left arm, something makes a 'snapping' feeling in my left elbow. It doesn't hurt at first, but gets worse over time.

It has been like this for months now, even though I've backed off the weights for more cardio and stuff.

What do I do? What did I fuck up? How do I fix it? Should I see a doctor?

yes, go see a doctor immediately

if you tore a tendon / muscle and keep on moving it, it will never heal.
That kind of injury has to be put into a cast, if you're unlucky you need surgery even.
Tldr: See a doc.

Well, I just figured it would heal over time.
But obviously, it didn't.

Honestly if it was something really serious, you'd be in a shitload of pain and couldn't work. I have the same thing and its lasted awhile. I'm taking it easy and resting it a bit, but still workout with an elbow sleeve on. It helps and they're cheap, like $14.

You probably hyper-extended the elbow.

Let me guess, it hurts the most when fully extended and sometimes it doesnt want to even fully extend?

You might have hurt a tendon while lifting heavy normally rest will fix it but if you keep doing it can become worse into something called Tendonitis (sp).

Yeah, it hurts (and gives me the uneasy feeling) at the point where I'm extending my arm, but it will always fully extend.

Another thing worth noting is that the pain occurs on the inside of the elbow.
I just tried straining it, and it really feels like the tendon there is having trouble letting the free weight go down in a normal fashion, but has no trouble actually lifting it.

Seriously guys, wtf? I've tried looking up all sorts of things from Tennis Elbow to Tendonitis, but none of it seems to match my complaints.
What is it?

I think you might have pulled a ligament. definately see a doctor IMMEDIATELY and get a x-ray. my friend tore her ligament at the gym and they said that the injury can take up to 15 months to heal naturally.

Isn't that supposed to hurt a shitload?
What I have doesn't really hurt at all, until I repeatedly lift a weight, even a pretty light one..

Stretching has been shown to be detremental to do prior to weightlifting. It is better to warm up with cardio or a extremely light weight w/ high reps, and leave streching for after you lift.

The reason you have that \"clicking\" or \"snapping\" sound is most likely caused because you arent doing the exercise properly. I had the similar feeling while doing Lateral Raises in my shoulder and it was because I was locking out my arms and going above 90 degrees.

Stretching after lifting is nonsense too.
You just tear your already worn muscles more, increasting the muscle sore.
Stretching = bad.

it shouldn't hurt.. only until you do something. because the ligament is healing while there's no strain being put on it. when you put strain on it the pain increases because the ligament isn't healed. if you're looking at healng it naturally though i just suggest pumping up on vitamins and minerals so your body can repair it and has all the tools it needs. otherwise operation time :(

You strech after doing a cooldown, after your body isnt pumped as much. Stretching helps to relax and balance tension on muscles that have just been exercised.
Also its used to increase flexibility, so that you wont be one of those jacked dudes that cant wipe his own ass.
