Ok guise, I need some advice.. I started to finally get into shape. I never exercise or work out, and while I'm not fat or anything, Ialso have no fucking muscle.. I'm 20 years old, about 155lbs and 5'7".

I want to start with pushups and squats (gay, I know). How many would I need to do daily before I should get to actual work out with weights and stuff?
I want to at least get some showable muscles from doing those.
>> Anonymous
squats are the best exercise for your body.

if you have access to a gym, start with the bar.

I used to, but not anymore since about a year and a half ago.. but I think I will be renewing my membership to work out again.

I cant believe I've been having free time for 2 years. No school, no work, nothing.. I could've exercised, get fit, work out my mind, everything.. and I did nothing but be on the internet all day... such a fucking waste, and now I'm regretting it.

>>238898
I thought people didnt like squats here.. I like em myself, actually.

So how many should I do right here in my room for now while I get my gym membership?

Depends on your body type and current muscle. Just do pushups whenever you think of them, or hold yourself on your side wiht one arm and one foot for as long as you can, then swap sides. Use the various kinds of pushups.

Dude. I'm 5'7" I weight around 145-150lbs. I bench around 130 and squat 185 ass to the floor 5x5. I have a reasonable amount of fat. How the fuck are you not fat.

Thanks.

I'm so sore right now.. thats cause I just started.
Should I keep doing them as much as I possibly can, or wait for my muscles to heal back up?

>>239075
That is impressive. I wish I can do all that later on.

And.. I dont know? I do have some excessive fat on the belly area, but that's it.. I dont eat excessively either, just the normal amount of food.

Do five sets of pushups, space it out so the last set you overload. Make sure that the FIRST set and the LAST set are the MOST pushups. So that means the 3 in between the first and last are LESS than both of them.

>>239083
Your choice. I'm retarded, so I don't bother with rest days except for when there is something on I can't do and go to the gym on the same day (once every month or so). You'll get better bulking results if you have a rest day every few days. Or every second day for the first week; although you must be pretty unfit to be sore from pushups.

I'm also 20 years old, 5'7, and was 150 pounds a month ago. Don't delude yourself. You're fat.

Do some cardio to help burn the fat off you so you could actually see your muscles. Also, stop drinking soda.

He's fat. Denial.

I'm interested in this thread, since I'm in very much the same situation. I weight more and I'm taller than OP, but I think I'm in even worse shape than him...

I'm 20, 5'8" and 150lbs

Small frame, though no measurement of bf% I have visible abs

>>239165

Also, I can only manage 45 pushups and 80 crunches
Only bench 100, because that's all the weights I own
Haven't done squatz yet because I'm afraid of not having a spotter

I'm intrested in this too, keep it alive /fit/.

Resistance training, since you are all pansies atm, do full body workouts with compound exercises at first until you have built up enough strength to create a split.
pushups every day, pullups every day. Abs every day.
5 meals 3 hours apart
Protein with every meal
fruit and/or veggie every meal
write down everything you eat or take a picture
improve.

Bigger muscles = less reps, more weight.
If you want to get bigger but haven't done weights at all I would start off with really light weights and do lots of reps the first couple of times you work out to get used to lifting weights so that you wont hurt yourself and to help build up endurance, but if you want to actually build muscle mass you need to lift the maximum you can. I usually do a set of 5 reps at a manageable weight to warm up then do 3 at a weight that I struggle at, and then 1 at my max with a spotter in case I can't get it up. Of course you need time recover so you only want to max out like this about once a week and you can do lighter weights inbetween.
Protein is your friend, if you take protein powder you will recover faster and build more muscle. I hear whey protein is easiest to digest and best on your system, but I don't know that for a fact.

OP, i was in your situation exactly a year ago. 5'11 70kg.

I started off doing home workouts last august doing pushups, situps and pull-ups (if you don't have a pullup bar, GET ONE NOW).

I was quite consitent with these workouts and saw small gains, particularly in my abs.

This past January I joined a gym and not knowing what to do, I used the routine provided for me by a personal trainer which consisted of machines. Did this until early April, also with some small gains.

In April I switched to my own programme based on what I had read on the internets (tnation, bodybuilding.com, /fit/, stronglifts.com, etc.) composed of free weights and compound exercises. Have seen by far the most gains with these.

So I suggest starting off light with the home stuff until you feel sufficiently confident and motivated to go to a gym and start doing free weights (ignore any and all machines). It's been a year and I'm quite satisfied with my results.

Fix your diet and exercise. Diet is priority for you, however. That's how you leave skinnyfat land.
