I lost one of my eyes not long ago and I'm wondering whether or not I should swap the eyepatch for a falsey.

I've been told by different doctors that one is healthier than the other and involves less risks of infections and all that other crap, vice versa, etc. I call bullshit, but if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know.

Oh, and pic unrelated.

Having a hole in the eye socket exposes a good amount of mucous membrane to open air, which is a portal of entry for disease/contamination. Poorly made eye replacements will probably contaminate the socket on their own.

But just to be socially acceptable (for example, at your wedding), I'd get the false eye. Unless you have a pirate theme wedding, in which case would be AWESOME.

Funnily enough, my girlfriend claims she's grown fond of the eyepatch, but she said she didn't give a fuck what I got. Since you mentioned the risk of poor quality replacements, I'm leaning towards keeping the patch, unless that holds equal risks?

Does the patch seal in the eye socket? If so you should be fine.

EYE PATCH HOLY SHIT WHY IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION
>> Anonymous
>>94243
It does. Very well, in fact. Might as well keep the patch if it works as well as a decent falsey then. Thanks for the help.

get a fake one then pop it out at inappropriate times!

how'd you lose your eye?

i like how you'd rather take an internet forum's advice over your doctor's.

WTF? Fake eye FTL

EYE PATCH! FTW!

Odd. I once heard the loss of an eye can lead to nerve degeneration that often causes the other to go blind as well, as eyes were meant to work in synch, and that a false eye could to a slight extent 'fool' the system. As well as keep your facial musculature in the shape they were in initially. But what the heck, why choose one or the other - get both!

Saul Tigh looks better with an eyepatch.

I'd get a fake one that was totally black and scare children.

Exploding cans of paint during a shed fire.

I saw a number of doctors who gave me a variety of clashing opinions about either method. Shit got confusing.

I had a great uncle with a false eye. He always said that he had to wear it because it supported the socket. I don't know how true that was, but I'm sure he'd been told that by his doctor.

As far as I know, retinal axon degeneration only occurs if 1) the eye isn't being used, or 2) the other eye is being used more (e.g. lazy eye; axons from the 'good' eye out-compete the 'bad' eye during synaptogenesis in the brain).

Keeping the eyepatch would probably be a good idea if you've still got parts of your eye still residing in the socket (keeps out the gunk, easier to clean if it oozes).

I forgot about this thread for a while. That's a point, I've still got a big portion of the damaged eye left in there so I probably won't have to worry too much about the socket's support, and if the eyepatch can prevent infections well enough on its own, then I might as well keep it.

Badass motherfucker.
>> GIGATHOR4
I've been thinking about this recently (though i have no eye loss in the known future) and I'd definitely go eyepatch. I'm sure you're used to all the ARRRRRRRRRRR and shit you get. Although if there are cool-looking false eyes you could get then it'd be a tougher decision.

Get a false eye with one of these and stick it behind your eyepatch. Best of both worlds.
