Is being a cardio-bunny really all that bad? Anonymous
I was wondering...

What's so bad about doing a lot of cardio? I mean, it's not like I wouldn't see any results at all by running 5 miles a day, right? Other than lack of lean body mass or muscle definition, I guess...
>> Anonymous
yum, look at that calf.

sorry, pic distracted me from what ever you said.

Joint stress is one thing. If you're committed to a cardio heavy workout, maybe try cycling? It's worked out well for me.

How often do you cycle and what kind of results did you see? Stationary cycle or what? Do you ever do HIIT with it?

I try and cycle every day, but it never ends up working out like that. I have been doing it for about 3 weeks, and I've lost 14lbs. From 228 to 214. My quads have seen awesome improvement. I have a Fuji Absolute 2.0 road bike that I ride. My typical ride is 7ish miles on a gradual uphill, and back home. It's about 15 miles. I haven't started training officially, but I am looking to enter the Team in Training system. I imagine I'd be doing all sorts of interval training and such.

Not OP, but is it embarrassing to not know how to ride a bike? I've never learned because daddy wasn't there...
>> Anonymous
>>353981
Wow, odd coincidence... I just asked a girl to go on a bike ride with me, and she said she didn't know how. I thought it was fucking adorable.

Right, and you're not a slovenly jackass trying to troll /fit/. Enjoy your waste of a life faggot.

sooo,,, why does everyone think that doing a little cardio results in major muscle loss? You guys do know that boxers and fighters run alot right??

Well, i don't know what your goals are so i can't tell if doing a lot of cardio is bad or not.
>> Anonymous
>>353908

No. Runners have really great bodies. Nothing wrong or bad about being heavy into cardio.

Personally, I prefer cardio because lifting and the gym scene is nothing but a fucking drag to me. Boring as shit. I do basic body weight exercises sometimes, but it's not structured by any means.

I run and bike because it's actually enjoyable. Outside, fresh air, mp3 player. You guys can enjoy your closed in gym that smells like sweat and piss.

>why does everyone think that doing a little cardio results in major muscle loss? You guys do know that boxers and fighters run alot right??

Boxers and fighters also do a lot of strength training as well, that offsets the muscle loss from cardio.
>> Anonymous
>>354506
troll?
cardio is much more boring than lifting.
>> Anonymous
>>354506
You know, it IS possible to strength train outside.
>> Anonymous
>>354506
I love lifting weights at the gym, and I hate cardio. I still make myself do it though. Kind of weird ralizing other people think different from me
>> Anonymous
>>354511
Riiiight.. I tell myself that every time I see my calves and notice how their shapes changed over this year since I picked up running (and when I feel my thighs and muscles behind the skin). Running eating your muscles and running training your body to become a fat storing musheen are /fit/ bestest trolls (with HIIT being in its own category).

you suck at running
>>354506
you suck at weight lifting

altho i personaly preffer running(especially long distance) but i bench and squat when i have time

to OP, there is nothing wrong with lots of cardio when you prepare for it right, read some literature about endurance running and other related stuff, cause when you just fanatically jump on it without any knoledge a lot of stuff can go wrong
>> Anonymous
>>354510

Yeah, because simply having muscle mass is the only way to have a good body, right?

Hey guys, let's all try our best to look like the Incredible Hulk. Being hue instantly means women will be attractive to us and just simply having large muscles must automatically mean we are in good health!

Fucking shithead.
>> is this awesome? Anonymous

ever try not having muscle mass? shit doesnt really work out too well

>>354521here.

I suck at running cause I mentioned the possibility of being able to strength train outside? What? How does that even remotely begin to make sense?

oh fuck. quoted you by accident, my appologize

Shit, this is still up. First cycling fag here. The way that I see it is, you work out for how you want your body to look. Some people don't want to look big, I am one of those people. I'm perfectly happy doing nothing but cycling.

yea i started running like crazy earlier this summer trying to get all of the fat off of my body doing 3 miles twice a day and shit....yea i pretty much burned all the muscle off my body....ended up with just fat left behind....then when i tried to lift to get some muscle back and keep jogging it just didn't work i just kept burning all the muscle off of my body...i stopped jogging and guess what all of a sudden i started gaining muscle...then started doing hiit type cardio...and well everything is great now...twice a day i just go outside and run as far as i can and then stop and do it again...come home eat something....then do it again some other time....works great...long distance jogging just isn't all it is made out to be...
>> Anonymous
also with cycling how many miles do you think you have to ride on that thing until it equals one mile jogging like 10? or so meh probably only 7 miles so you have to go like what 21 miles to equal a three mile jog....that just makes it too easy to give up and just go home at 15 miles....
>> Anonymous
>>354607
The way you got to look at it is not by distance, but by time and heart rate.
>> Anonymous
>>354606

I'm doing the same thing, I was jogging 3 miles 3 times a week but I'm thinking of switching over to just HIIT cardio.

How far were you running, and how long?

I'm thinking of just doing sets of sprints, maybe jog 1/2 a mile to warm up, then just finish up with six sets of sprints with 1 minute rest periods inbetween.

>>354614
I have been jogging for about 3 years now andi was running anywhere from 3 miles to 9 everyday earlier this summer...usually about 6 miles a day split into sessions when i woke up and in the evening...i remember i was starting to notice all of the people who are addicted to cardio(I live on a lake which has a 3 mile jogging trail around it) I usually took bcaa's before i would jog but i probably should of just drank a whey shake with water or something before and after that probably would of helped with the muscle loss...but i just ended up swtiching to the hiit style....i like it it works well for me i just kinda go jog real quick whenever i feel like i need a boost and then come home...and do serious lifting mon-wed-fri with some easier lightweight stuff on other days (a few pull ups here and there...some lightweight curls...etc...etc) basically all i can say is that if you are going to jog long distance often you just need to eat before you go....drink a whey shake with some water....or a couple of eggs....i would take bcaa's before jogging myself but i feel i either didn't take enough or they just didn't work to stave off the eating of my muscles....meh working out is all trial and error just keep going and you'll get it eventually

OP here. Thanks for your input.

I agree with.>>354605

As a girlfag, I don't want to get bulky AND BEFORE EVERYONE JUMPS ON ME FOR SAYING THAT, let me just say that there IS a difference between a girl with a lot of muscle and a girl with less muscle. See picture (taken from /cgl/: girl on top lost weight through mainly cardio, bottom girl obviously did more weight training.) I find the girl with less muscle way more attractive, and I'd rather look like her.

So looks like I'll be running a lot in the future! Cardio bunny time!

>As a girlfag, I don't want to get bulky

Yeah, you have to be careful...one day I lifted weights a little too hard, the next day I couldn't fit through my door anymore.

I'm loathe to say it, but in addition to your running, do a great deal of calf lift work and.. *sigh* squats. More leg work makes running easier, and makes your legs look better.
>> Anonymous
>>354859
Me too! Now I only do cardio.
>> Theodore Roosevelt !!J8LZ2zthmwi
>>354876

After that I couldn't fit through the door, I took a year off weight training, so I didn't look like the hulk anymore. Well, I was bored one day, and lifted some weights, next morning I woke up and I was fucking huge again. I went to pet my dog, but accidentally crushed it.

No more weight training for me :(

>>354853

Wait! Please, wait!

Before you dismiss lifting, I want to recommend something to you. Please, do some research on Olympic lifting (the snatch and the clean and jerk). Wikipedia can give you some good information to start, and just googling "Olympic lifting" or "O-lifting" will get you some good pages.

Olympic weightlifting is an amazing sport, and personally I think there are not nearly enough women who appreciate it.

newsflash! girls on the left are fucking whales and i doubt the left botom one ever did an excersice in her life at all.

if you wana lose bf% then you are on a right track as long distance runs are the best for it. but if you gona get into it seriously, dont forget to eat right, as malnutrition may cause a lot of problems when stressing your body with long distance runs

Isn't short-term high-intensity running better for fat loss?
>> Anonymous
Not OP, but i have a question... a lot of people on /fit/ say that if your over weight the joint stress will really suck... so what's a good weight to be when you start running to not cause the joint stress? (i'm 5'3 184lbs)
>> Theodore Roosevelt !!J8LZ2zthmwi
>>354958
Just start out by running slow and short distances. Try to run on soft surfaces too(grass, track). This will make it easier on your joints and give them time to strengthen.

well actuall i am not really sure, but all this "HIIT increases the resting metabolic rate (RMR) for the following 24 " is sound kinda retarded cause any workout increases your metabolsim and since HIIT is much more easy then lds its not really believable that its better.
well anyway i've been doing LDS for a while now and i am pretty happy with the results (bf 7%)

Checking all the calorie burning charts I burn more calories on a bike then I do when I run. Mainly because I can keep a really high speed on a bike longer then I can continuously fun really fast.

Basically I can burn just as many cals on a bike as I could running for the same amount of time.

i use to only do cardio. i consider it the most essential workout you could possibly do...to be more specific, i'm talking about running or swimming long distances. it's really what can keep you healthy and fit, not just weight lifting. fools weight lift without cardio. they tend to be strong and fat.

so to answer your question, no. it's the most important workout you can do.
