So about 8 months ago I decided it was time to stop being a skinny-fat bastard with no energy and get off the computer. I started with healthy eating / cardio and lost just under 30 lbs and 3 inches off my waist. This went on for about 4 months, until I was satisfied with my fat loss and decided it was time to put on some muscle.

At this point I had zero strength - I couldn't even curl a 15 lb dumbbell without arching my back. It was bad. That's what I get for sitting on a computer for the last 5 years I guess. Anyway, I bought a barbell and a couple adjustable dumbbells and googled some exercises. I learned about proper form, compound lifts, diet, and settled on a basic 3 day split I could do at home; push / pull / legs. Since then I've gained 15 pounds back, but my waist hasn't increased at all. I've at least doubled all my lifts, though most of them have increased by even more. I plan to gain another 20 lbs, and probably more after that.

Just to give you an idea, I PR'd 40 pounds on my dumbbell curl last week, and I don't even do curls as part of my routine (on pull day I do chin ups and various rows, more than enough to sufficiently work my biceps). Compare that to the 15 pounds I struggled to curl 4 months ago.

The point of this thread is that chubby nerds who haven't been active for years can easily attain results if they just put out the effort. I once read a post on this forum that said "Get the fuck off the internet and go for a run." So I did, and here I am.

Picture related, it might not look like much, but it's a hell of a lot better than the mess of cottage cheese I looked like 8 months ago. I wish I had a before pic, but back then I wouldn't be caught dead without a shirt on. A year from now I'll look back on this picture and laugh.

Now get the fuck off the internet and go for a run.

obviously getting ready to stick it up where the sun don't shine.

Record meaning 1RM or meaning reps with?

i'd assume so, usually a personal record is going to be your biggest 1RM to date

I have no idea what my 1RM with a dumbbell is. Probably 50 with a little leaning.

I've been doing more and more weight lifting just out of boredom from sitting on my ass so much. I was pretty much a fat weak little nothing. In a very short amount of time, my lifting capacity (as far as reps) has more than doubled. I'm seriously getting addicted to that after-workout soreness that comes with a healthy dose of endorphins. With each passing day I push myself a little bit further. I haven't felt this great in years.
