Okay. This is serious. My friend Danny has been addicted to Xanax for two years. They have brought him down gradually for a couple months, from 6 mgs a day, to three 3 mgs a day. Tomorrow he is going to jail for a couple months for driving with a suspended lisence. He will not get ANY Xanax. He will be off of it, cold turkey. What i'm wondering is, does he have any extremely serious risks with this? We have talked to doctors, cops, lawyers, everyone, and nothing can be done about this. They won't give him ANY in jail, and they wont substitute anything for it either. Anyways... you think he's gonna die /b/?

tl;dr? My friend is going off of three mgs of xanax a day cold turkey because he is going to jail. What the fuck should we do?

Alright. His main fear IS having seizures. This guy is a wreck... he has panic disorder at the highest right now. He doesn't know what to do.

Not sure what else can be done if they refuse to let him have anything while in jail. You could help prevent the seizures by other drugs but they probably wouldn't give him those either. You could try searching Pubmed for benzodiazepine withdrawal studies to see how likely it is that he'll even have a seizure. And if he does have one then that doesn't mean he'll die. I'd bet that the chances of death are really, really low. The best thing you could probably do is try to say anything you can to calm him down, even if those things aren't completely true.

He brought it on himself. Bad choices. It's part of his punishment.
