Is bike riding a good exercise? I mean compared to other exercises, not compared to no exercise at all.

WELL I DON'T KNOW ABOUT EXERCISE. BUT COMPARED TO ALL OTHER ANIMALS WE USE THE LEAST AMOUNT OF ENERGY AND TRAVEL THE MOST DISTANCE WHILE ON A BIKE VS. WALKING OR RUNNING ETC.

Laziest unless you are cycling through mountainous regions or have constant hills and valleys on the ride. I can keep up a 20+ mph pace without breaking a sweat on flat, and that's not even a road bike. The thing you have to remember with a bicycle is that all of your work is going into moving you forward, minus the typical loss of work through heat and frictive forces. Thus, cycling is an extremely efficient method of self-propelled transport, but you burn fewer calories per mile than anything else because of this efficiency.

it really just depends on how you ride. You'll know if you're exercising a lot. Depends on how fast, how far, and how difficult the terrain is. If you're just cruising a few blocks down the sidewalk, it's not much better than walking.

Spin the wheels as fast as you can and you'll see it's a terrific form of cardio.

If you biked 30 miles on urban roads it's certainly good for calorie burning. Distance is definitely a factor even if the ride is easy.
I'm completely out of shape, but I bought myself a mountain bike hoping the high level of difficultly will make it more worthwhile. Took it on some real park woods trails. Problem was I really couldn't get very far at all before I was worn out, so it wasn't worth it at all. Think I'm gonna sell that bike.

If you're tired and working a sweat its working, general rule to follow

Eh, I'd rather run or swim. The only thing I used biking for was to define my Apollo's belt.

Just do mountain bike HIIT until you can do a lot more.

I've got a pool out back, but my rental agency is full of idiots who although claimed pool access as an amenity, refuse to actually get me access to it (it's run by the neighborhood watch people).

It's about 13 miles into town and back.
