/fit/! I need your help!!

I'm 5'10'' 170lbs. and was wondering if I should drop some more weight before starting a lifting regimen.

Is it easier to burn fat then add muscle as opposed to just turning fat into muscle?

Also, I'm shooting for lean definition and not bulk.
