Use the first couple of weeks to learn PROPER technique. Either search the interbutts or get someone to show you. It doesn't matter if you stay in the pool for 30 minutes or 3 hours, what matters is what you do when you are there. Warm up -> some intervals -> one pretty long run, something like that should work. Also, you don't need to go swimming every day. Do some other exercises on you free-days like spinning or jogging or some shit.
