When doing cardio, which is an extremely good idea, doing go hardcore running "IMA GONNA RUN TILL EYES PUKE!" You actually need to go at a slower pace, like a brisk power walk or maybe slightly lower, to burn fat. Running all out just tones your muscles for endurance more than burns fat. Slow and steady wins the race. Also keep in mind that you will have to walk/slow-jog for a longer period of time to get the results you want. Don't go for sit ups when your goal is a flat stomach, that's a common misconception called spot reducing or something like that but it's not true. When your body uses fat for energy, it doesn't just use it from the area that is currently being worked.
