Hey mis/fit/s.

Anyone have any experience and/or opinions about self resistance workouts? I'm in college and move around a lot, so I can't be hauling weights with me and I don't have the money for a gym membership. Been doing self resistance work outs for about six months now and like being weightless better.

if you mean 'bodyweight resistance' then yeah, they can kick ass. you won't put on a whole lot of muscle mass, but you can build lean muscle and get strong as fuck. it's basically what the olympic gymnasts do. a lot of those guys never even lift weights (read 'the naked warrior'; i know it sounds gay, but it's about gymnastics training).

I've switched over to weightless workouts, and I am loving it. I have never been in better shape, with less joint/muscle pain, more strength, more balance, more energy, than ever.

Hate to sound like a shill, but I've been using John Peterson's books for my personal workouts. The Miracle Seven is the best $10 investment I ever made.

Can anybody explain how you do weightless work outs, and gain muscle strength?

you use your body weight. which is weight too.
pushups, crunches, dips, etc.

Here's a simple idea that may open your mind a little bit: have you ever seen a tiger or a gorilla lift weights?

Me neither.

And yet they are incredibly strong - that is the idea behind weightless workouts, to use your own body as resistance to build strength.

I'm also in college, but I plain don't like gyms and my friend stole my weights then got hooked on pot then moved out of town.
So far I've found my body weight exercises to be more effective than my weights ever were. Theyre alot more fun and involved too.
I doubt I'll bother getting any weights for a long time.
Do them.

It helps if gorillas don't experience muscle atrophy...

Body weight workouts take a lot longer to see the same results. If you have good form, you shouldn't have joint issues.
