So i've been obsessed with detoxing lately... not actually doing it, because i love food, but with planning because I feel like I'm all gunked up inside (recently gained a lot of weight, feel sluggish, lots of allergies and aches cropping up all of a sudden)

I have a friend who does the lemon juice/maple syrup cleanse every 6 months for a week and loves it. i thought i'd start out with a sea salt flush before i start it over spring break in 2 weeks.

BAD PLAN. I basically shat saltwater for 4 hours. What's the best way to detox WITHOUT crazy assed juice fasting? What kind of maintainable diet or additives will help me purge all my nastiness? Or do these short-term "purges" have some value?

I do a detox every 6 months at minimum where I eat a lot of wholefoods. I go borderline vegetarian: A bowl of oatmeal (plane of course) every morning, a protein shake if I need it. Tuna on whole wheat with low-fat mayo for lunch with two pieces of fruit and veges. Same deal for dinner. Lots of tuna, all low fat meat, lots of grapefruit. I drink a gallon of water a day bare minimum during this. NO REFINED SUGARS OR SIMPLE STARCHES WHEN ABLE.

I see results when I do this in the form of not gaining any weight at all (actually continuing to lose weight) for an additional month post-diet, and only gaining back a small amount after that.

salt and water need to be consumed in certain ratio. salt controls water distribution throughout the body. fuck up the ratio, it don't work. it's usually a pinch to cup.

hmm... see this is my line of thinking. I feel like that's healthy, sustainable. doable. not resulting in having to miss work for being on the toilet. is the grapefruit critical to success?

I did "two level tbsp" of sea salt to a quart of warm water and downed it in one sitting. that's what all the "clean your body naturally" sites said.

I think someone somewhere forgot to mention cleaning your body out was shitty your entire ass out, based on what you said...

it's supposed to get you to chuckle.. joke?

I enjoy grapefruit and it's loaded with fiber and vitamin C. Both of those things are good. The vitamin C is nice to boost your immune system in response to the pseudo-stress you're placing on yourself. I suppose you could sub in an orange or something for the grapefruit. One thing to keep in mind is to leave the 'skin' of the grapefruit or orange on after you peel the rind off. Not the thick outer part, but the slightly chewy innards-- those are good for you!

i knew I'd shit my ass out... i expected that. problem was i had one unimpressive solid movement and about 6 of nothing but pure water. there has to be more than that in my digestive tract. if i'd had hardcore diarrhea for five hours, i would have been impressed.

>>13529here. i never detox'd, only listened to some info on it. pinch to cup was deliberately told to me generally when i probed it's specifics, it's hard to measure what I was told was "necessary for the body".

your cleansing stuff is outside my knowledge. good luck. shatting for 4 hours aside, i may suggest tinkering with the ratio, but now i'm just guessing.

Detox is a misnomer. If you have 'bad' things in your body for any more than say, a day, they are probably fat soluble. Similar to how when you have hot chilli or curry you have milk or yoghurt to cool your mouth but water makes it worse, or you need detergent to remove grease and oil when washing in water. Some things stick in fat, some things stick in water. And if it is in fat, then no matter how much water you drink, it is not coming out.

All detox diets do is starve you of nutrients and clean out your bowel. You feel awful so that going back to normal feels great. Perhaps look at your surroundings and mental situation for the source of aches and allergies. Failing that, warm soapy water up your ass will do the same as detox, and it makes your belly really thin.

Eat 25-35g of INsoluble fiber a day. You'll be as detoxed as you ever need to be.
