Sup /fit/, I'm leaving for the army in a month. I'm 5'9 185ish. My target weight is 174 for military standerds.
Also I need to pass the army fitness test to rank up before I go.
Pushups are 42
Sit Ups are 53
And the 2 mile run is 15:45
I can almost do the pushups, Situps are easy. And my run was 16:34
I've never been extra fit, just moderately. Any way I could make the cut before I leave in early january?

just keep at it. obviously you're close. hardest thing will be the run. train that the most because you'll run faster and cut weight making the pushups easier in the process. just 45 or so seconds off of 16:34 cant be too tough

Does HIIT really work? And how long should I do it a day? Or more then once a day?
Are there any other running techniques?
Also my 1st Lt. sent me a link to a pushup exercise.

Would it really work?

You'll want to do both HIIT and long distance running - to get you used to endurance. HIIT really does work, but only if you really do it properly. Not like half arsed sprinting, you have to go all out. BALLS DEEP.

Isn't the minimum pressups 75, situps 80, pullups 15 and the 2mile in 13:00?

no personal experience w/hiit but i've heard it works wonders for cutting weight, building strength and endurance. You're going to be running alot in basic so just run alot. I'd suggest just working on your 2mi time but you could train for longer once you get that required time. Not sure about running techniques. not a runner. And finally, dont see why that pushup workout wouldn't work. you need more pushups so training with pushups makes sense

Those are to get a perfect score. With those scores its a 300. I'm aiming for 240 or 250. I should be able to hit 300 by the end of basic.
And how long should I do HIIT? and how many times a day?

Depends. You want to be strength training 3x week, so consider doing it on offdays, and running every day as well (endurance).

What does 240 or 250 get you? 300 equates to say, prerequisites for ranger school, no?

I've been running 30 minutes a day for 2 months and I'm up to 4 miles now which is under your 2 mile run time. Add a 30 minute run before your workout and do it at least 5-6 times a week. The extra cardio (you'll burn around 500 calories) will help you lose weight. Just don't neglect your other needs, but those will get easier as your weight drops.

>before your workout
>after your workout

Fixed for you broseph.

Don't do cardio before weights.

I think 295 is ranger school. I don't think I would do it anyways. I'm just an engineer. Then again I could be a Rangeneer.
I don't have access to weights though. Any lifting I do is done with construction equipment.

Whatever. Train body weight, train it hard. The main difficulty in getting those high pt scores is the 13min run and depending on your muscular endurance 75 pushups.

You can get over 100 for a test if you beat the 100 I'm pretty sure, so if you train pullups you can get to like 26 and hike your score up.

Ranger school is 270 with 90min in each event.

i think he meant he took 30mins to run 4miles, meaning is he is able to run 2miles in at least 15mins.
