A question for you, /fit/

I was talking with a random co-worker about exercise routines and he said that working out in the late evening right before bed is one of the best ways to work out. Supposedly it allows your body and metabolism to recover much more efficiently and stuff during sleep.

I've never heard of such a thing. Sounds crazy if you ask me. If working out pumps up your endorphins, isn't it contradictory to grind them to a halt and hit the sack instead of expending them?

What are your thoughts on this, /fit/? 'Cause if this is true, it will do wonders for my schedule.

yeah, this approach has been around for a while. my understanding of it is that the muscles loosen up sufficiently over the day, very importantly the nutrient intake throughout makes it a bonus time too, and also has advantages for gains because you're going straight into more or less recovery mode. don't know about right before bed but i do know quite a few people who will train later in the day for similar reasons. depends on your schedule though i guess

I find it a good way to exercise but it's not always practical. Only in the summer when its light 24/7 here do I exercise before I sleep, usually just jogging.

endorphins dont make you excited or specially active, they just make you feel good and happy (in fact they are painkillers, more or less).

Muscle tissue grows when its regenerating. By exercising you stretch and break the tissue, and by resting you regenerate it and strenghten it. When you sleep regeneration is off the charts.

The only important thing is to end the exercise like, 30-45 min before hitting the sack, so you aren't pumped, and stretch well.

Enjoy your superior training.
