its almost summer and i wanna start getting in better shape. im 19, 6'4 and around 155 lbs. so basically im a tall skinny lanky guy thats also a smoker. i don't really wanna sign up for the gym and just lifts weights and become macho or anything. i just wanna get toned, add some muscle. people say that what you eat is just as important as exercising and i have a pretty high metabolism and can eat just about anything and nothing will happen. like last night it was nice outside so i kept cooking burgers for me and my friends and ate all day but somedays i can just go on eating a sandwhich miday and nothing else...

tl;dr
i wanna get fit and more toned but still somewhat skinny for this summer. tall skinny as is and smoke.

If you're that skinny you need to build muscle. This means lifting heavy (FUCKING heavy not just pussy weights) with low reps. Learn how to do the squat, deadlift and bench press with good form first, using low weights. Then once your technique is down jack up the weights. These three exercises are the best for building muscle.

Diet is half the battle too. You need to eat a good source of protein (chicken breast, eggs, lean red meat, cottage cheese) every 2 hours and 45 minutes ON THE CLOCK. With you metabolism skipping a meal is a big no no. You need to eat eat eat then eat some more.

While all helpful posts on /fit/ are a welcome sight to my eyes, when a poster comes out with

it's pretty damn frustrating. I mean, don't worry OP. You sure as hell won't get macho overnight if you lift a heavy weight. Especially if you don't want to go to a gym, have an inconsistent diet and smoke. Believe it or not, people have to strive for things like physical fitness. Who'd have thought? Jackass.

Despite this, I don't want to be hypocritical. So, my advice. You are right in saying what you eat is just as important as the exercise. And to cover the most important part: eat. Eat alot. People who exercise and also have a fast metabolism burn through alot of calories. In order to maintain, let alone gain, any muscular weight you will be have to be eating regularly, eating alot, and eating well.

Secondly, if you're not willing to go to a gym or purchase the required equipment for the three basic exercises mentioned to you, do calinsthetics. Or better yet, buy a sandbag. Find a compromise. Research and find something you're willing to do.

Thirdly, make smoking an occasional thing, like alcohol. And when you're ready to stop pussyfooting, quit it altogether. You'll be better off.
