In my town, there are three gyms I might join...

In-Shape
Gold's Gym
Local Court Room

In-Shape offers 39 dollars/month or $44/month to go to any of the 5 In-Shapes in my town...He said I'd pay 98 dollars upon signing the contract. This gym has a pool, rock climbing, and is about a mile from my house. Open 24/7

Gold's Gym is a gym my sister currently goes to and she claims I can get on her plan for about $25/month. No start-up fee or anything because the contract is already set, and it's a just a transfer of names. This gym has nothing special really. It's about 8 miles from my house. Open 24/5

The local court room offers a plan for $35/month and a 49 dollar start up fee. This gym has a pool, racquetball courts, basketball court, and standard weights. The layout is strange though. Chick who showed me around was also hot. This gym is located about half a mile across the street from my house. Only open Mon-Thu 4:30am-11pm; Fri 4:30am-10pm; Weekends 7am-8pm

What gym should I go to?

I train at the local crossfit gym(no, I don't actually do crossfit). It's a little pricey at $75/month, however:
-Bumpers
-Good Barbells
-I can grunt and scream however much I fucking want
-Good soundsystem and good music
-Good coach
-I don't have to deal with all the retards common at commercial gyms.

Either the cheap one or the close one. If it gots weights (and isn't Planet Fitness), you've got what you need, right?

small gym, $24 a month, no contract, they got weights. Open 6am til 10pm. About 10 seconds away from the parking lot that is 10 minutes away from my house.

>This gym is located about half a mile across the street from my house

so how far is it from your house? See my post, lulz

Why drive ten minutes TO A GODDAMN GYM
Run there, faggot.
>> Anonymous
>>430431

That's what I'm thinking. The one close by is nice, and I don't mind the price. The only thing that's holding me back is the layout of the equipment. I think it might be okay though. I think I just want to know if it gets too busy.

>>430424

That's more than I would spend...I don't think I would want a coach though, so yea.

>This gym is located about half a mile across the street from my house.

That's a really wide road.
>> Anonymous
>>430439

Well what I meant was is that it's pretty much across the street from my house, but there's a shopping center in between...so I live about half a mile away. I would run there if I went. The other one that I said was a mile is a little farther than that, but it's still close.

but to piss you off even more, i used to work less than a minute from my house and i drove there everyday.

go for the In-shape deal, sounds best - climbing is fun, you should give it a go, also being able to workout 24/7 is a plus, i fucking hate not getting up early to go to my uni gym as any time after 1pm its filled with meathead cunts doing curls or hogging benches to do motherfucking dips.

does the $98 mean you've paid for the first two/three months or what? why would they make you pay that much just to join?

i paid £95 for a year membership at my university gym, with access to climbing wall, squash courts, full nautilus gym, olympic weight room, dumbell weight room (oly has powerracks and a big bucket of chalk), swimming pool down the road, and various classes that i'll never attend. fuck circuits.
the equipment is fine, the music is shit, the people are shitter, but who goes to a gym to socialise, right? staff are fairly friendly and helpful..
i've never showered there, but i live 5 minutes away so i can shower and use my loofah and my showergel and feel comfortable to strut through to my room to listen to music that i like.

Sounds like British gyms are cheap, but I don't know the cost of the gym at the local college. I wouldn't go anyway because it's about 25 minutes away down the freeway.

The so called "start-up fee" isn't part of the 1st couple of months. It's a contract fee but it also is just a way gyms make extra money, just like cancellation fees and late fees (I didn't ask much about those).

I pay 30 dollars a month to use the power cage and barbell that is stuck in the corner, while fat cows glare at me for making loud scary noises with deadlifts.

It's getting better though, roman chair and dip rack added last month, and an elliptical replaced with a concept 2 rower last week.

$90 to start.
included invitation fee
first months rate
and my key fob.

it cost me 35 bucks a month.

has a cardio room up front
machien room behind that
weight room behind that.

also has another room where karate is taught as well as aerobics, yoga, etc..

University Gym

yeah, its included in the tuition. The problem? Everyone goes there at certain points of the day forcing me to go either really early in the morning or late at night if i hope to get anything done.

Some shit local gym. like $20 a month. All the equipment is shitty and old, some of it is flat out broken. Bathrooms don't have paper towels anymore, shower is unsafe to stand in without sandals.

Considering going over the Golds. But don't know anybody who goes there and it seems to have a huge cocksucker vibe to it.

Tomorrow my 7 day pass ends at Gold's Gym. I think I'll try to get one for the In-Shape and then maybe the local gym. Right now, the In-Shape/Local gym are most appealing. The In-Shape might be worth the 10 extra dollars for the 24/7 and rock climbing...But the local one also has a pool and it's really close to my house.

>> Anonymous
>>430892
oh wow 4 months working at home?! Clearly you've cycled through every possible exercise and modifaction that you could ever think of in four months!
>> Anonymous
>>430892
you're clearly not well informed about fitness and exercise if you think 90 dollars is expensive fpr shoes.

i doubt you really thought of all the possible modifications you could to create more resistenec.
>> Anonymous
>>430902

You have got to be kidding me. You do not need the latest model shoe to obtain your fitness goals. Show me a 90 dollar shoe and I will show you a near replica of that shoe for half that price.

>>430899

LOL For my fitness goals, yes. I have a limited space. My room is only 8'x12' (96 sq feet) and I can't use anything other than that. So with my desk (18 square feet), chair (4 square feet), bed (30 square feet), television stand (8 square feet) I've got about 36 square feet I could use to workout...a pretty reasonable estimate. I've got a bench and free weights. I can't buy anymore free weights to take up even more room. I can't buy a bar and plates to take up even more room. I could buy a door frame pull-up bar, but that's about it. I want to try stronglifts and with 35 pound dumbells and 20 pound dumbells and a bench, I am very limited.

>>430936
use bands for resistance, use chairs/bricks/concrete blocks for more depth and range of motion, use 5 gallon jugs of water, use ankle weights, use wrist weights, use weighted vests.

and guess what? 40 dollar shoes are going to kill your feet and posture over time. get educated douche bag
>> Anonymous
>>430939

40 dollar shoes are going to screw up my posture? That makes no sense. So you're telling me that if I buy shoes this year for 90 dollars and next year when the newest model comes out for 90 dollars and the old one gets a price cut to 45, I shouldn't buy the old one because, only a year later, it will substantially will change my posture? This is the flaw that I am seeing. Also doesn't make sense because you don't even know the workout that I am doing. What if I am just riding bikes? There is little-to-no pressure on my feet if I were bike riding. Of course I should still wear shoes, but I don't need a top of the line cross trainer to go bike riding.

Also, resistance bands are ineffective past certain points. Oh, wait you must be right, considering all of the resistance band workouts that Jay Cutler does. Bricks can only be stored to a certain point, and can only be lifted with a certain amount. One may find it awkward to lift them in large quantities and hard to find something that won't break when you're trying to deadlift 200+ pounds of bricks. Also, 5 gallons only limits to 40 pounds and once again, they are awkward to lift...And the last three things you mentioned are limited in weight, expensive, useless, could cause injury, or all of the above.

wow dude..wow..were you going to argue points or just pull things out of your ass? none of the shit you said about shoes should even be addrressed. take a logical fallacies course to learn how to not sound like an idiot.

And with our competitively-priced on-site cosmetic surgery, we can turn that Frankenstein you see in the mirror every morning into a Franken-fine! My points were pretty clearly made. You can claim "fallacy" all you want like any other online debater would. I merely had stated that spending 90 dollars on shoes is economically senseless. As for my other points, those were also pretty clear. Prove me wrong.

British gyms are NOT cheap, not in my experience anyway. I've found three gyms round here that have weights (I live in the biggest town in my county) and they are all £30/$60 A MONTH. And what is worse,

- two of them are so cramped they are dangerous (you can't put weights on a barbell on one station, like a squat rack, without ducking out the way of a smith machine)

-the same two don't have any cardio machines at all.

- all three only have the one of each station. So if some roided up guy is doing half an hour supersets you gotta wait.

-one of them, where all the pros seemed to train, didn't even have a power cage, just a squat rack.

If I didn't live in a tiny flat + a powercage and 150kg weight set wouldn't set me back £500/$1000 I would totally train at home.

I go to my uni gym. It's a training venue for the British olympic team, so the facilities are top notch. In order to join you need to demonstrate good form on the squat and bench with a standard barbell, so no noobs.

The only downside is the olympic team regularly books the entire gym out for practice. Regular people have guaranteed access only during lunch and the evening.

You can do the O lifts in the other rooms, they never go in.

When class isn't in FUCKING SESSION there are power racks in the OTHER ROOM. My mistake though, two of those eight are smith machines, so six power racks.

I go to the gym on my Uni's campus. It's £70.00 a year. It's obviously not a 5 star gym, but for that price I can't argue. The stuff in there is just as good as a lot of machines I've used before.

>>431765
i wasn't like, trying to stalk you or anything, just curious to see if there were /fit/izens in my area. i used to train at the Heriot-Watt gym because it had 9 power racks and was never busy, but it was a bus journey away and i moved further away so i joined my uni gym.
