My index finger has been numb since yesterday night

it feels exactly like when you cross your legs for too long it feels tingly and bloated

there's no discolorations or anything

what's up with this? only on my left index finger the rest of my hand is fine

1) Extend your left arm fully.
2) Feel around where indicated (bearing in mind that the image is actually of a right arm.) until you find a groove. It ought to be within an inch or so of the edge.
3) Jam your finger in there (this won't hurt.)
4) Extend arm slowly whilst keeping pressure there. You should feel something flick out - that's a nerve. If this hurts or there's a sizeable twanging feeling then you probably have neural tension, which would explain the numbness etc.

that's the side of the elbow that's closer to your body right?

I remember carrying heavy plastic bags by the fingers before this happened

Maybe you've compressed/damaged a nerve from the bags? I remember I had a temp job for two days where I basically stood in one spot for two days, and both my big toes went numb for about a month. Doctor could still feel circulation in area etc, give it a bit of time, but if it starts to go cold/blue I'd say it's more serious.
