sup /fit/,

I don't speak much and I'm shy.
Today in class we were to discuss questions from the lecture slides. The slides were posted last night and I read them and I knew the answers to the questions but I didn't say a thing last class.

This isn't something new, I've been liek this all through highscool and even the past few years of university.
I want to change.

halp, I'm being marked on participation.

Just talk to them. Pretend that everyone in the room is your family, or naked.

I know that, but it's tough for me.

I don't know when to talk in a group. I'm fine one-on-one, but in a group I don't know when to say something. I don't want to cut people off or anything.

Imagine your desk.
Now imagine there's a circle surrounding the desk. It's a circle of light underneath your desk, glowing with your favorite color. now imagine all the triumphs you've done in your life, all the victories, all the achievements, everything that ever made you happy and content. And put it into the circle, make the circle represent all that.
now imagine a time and place where you were supremely confident, where you absolutely knew you could do no wrong. And put it into the circle, make the circle represent that as well.
Now imagine your favorite song, the one that gets you pumped up and ready to kick ass, and make it play in the circle. Take your favorite scent, the one that calms you and centers you, and place it in the circle.

Now, when you go to your desk, step into the circle and feel all that concentrated fuckwin awesomeness flow into you like a shot of adrenaline. Make that the zone where you are in charge, where you're in control, and where' you are the best.
I'm fairly sure if you do that, you'll be able to overcome anything in that room that comes up, be it stagefright, apathy, or rejection.
I believe in you OP, and I'm confident you can do it.

I used to be like that. You just have to assert yourself. Raise your hand if need be. If you accidentally cut someone off let them go first, chances are though that they will tell you to go instead. Interrupting people isn't that big of a deal if you aren't doing it all the time.

Op you and I are complete opposites. I can entertain a large crowd like it's nothing, yet when I get into a one on one convo I freeze up. Shit sucks

That's interesting. I've never heard of the opposite.

Overcoming social anxiety requires work. My advice to you is to go out there and start talking to people today.
Talk with store clerks, ask a stranger for directions or the time. Dance or sing in the street.
Once you find yourself talking to strangers with no embarrassment or fear, you’ll find it extremely liberating.

Take a public speaking class.

No joke. I joined speak in high school (and had a required public speaking class in college). Before that, I was painfully shy. You just have to do it. I actually cried after my first speech (after leaving) because it hit me so hard emotionally. But it helped a lot to just suck it up and do it.

I joined SPEECH in high school.

I remember giving a speech during English class.
I tried to play it cool, but my heart was beating like fucking hell and I spoke way too quickly.

You need to realize 2 things:
1. Most people are nervous at least to some extent when speaking in public
2. You know all the people around you individually, but not as a group - once you come to the realization that that group is composed of individuals it is much less frightening

I know what you mean. You got 2 concentrate on talking at a somewhat slow rate. This allows others to absorb the information you are vocalizing. The, house: is (blue), not the house is blue.
