Anyone else taking Isotretinoin (Accutane/Roaccutane)?

What are your experiences with it?
>> Anonymous
I've been taking claravis for about 2.5 months. 20mg 3x a day, and acne's all but cured. Started disappearing by like week 3 and I'm loving it.

Not taken it myself, but have a friend who did. He bled from the ass. He bled from the ass and made the worst-smelling farts ever. Fixed his acne, though. We taunted him mercilessly about his anal bleeding.

Did you look like you just got done eating spaghetti after you finished rimming him or something?

so far so good.

I'm about to start Accutane as well

what side effects aside from dryness should I expect?

I read horror stories like impotence, muscle/joint damage and brain damage on one accutane forum

Your dick will shrivel (so to speak) but your face will look better.

Best advice i can give you is to get this shit. Aquaphor: it's like neosporin I guess, but start rubbing it on your lips when they start drying out. Chapstick does jack shit and your lips will crack and swell without it.
>> Anonymous
YMMV, but keep in mind you WILL get sunburnt if you dont wear sunscreen (I can't stress this enough). Also, my lips cracked and bleed, and my hair was extremely dry and weak but that was about it on side effects. Varies from person to person, though.

Finished 6 months. 100 % clear.

best decision i ever made was to get my lazy ass to the doctors and get accutane been off it for about 4months now think ive had like one pimple since they dryness fucking sucks carry mosturizer and lip balm its worth it ppl notice your new skin ! good luck!

>>285800
how come your dosage time short?

I have to take it for freakin 18 months

I did 6 months on accutane when I was 21 (I'm 26 now). I had very dry, cracked lips but that was about it. I carried lip balm everywhere and applied it constantly. Oh and, if I recall correctly, you aren't really supposed to drink alcohol while you're on it since it can fuck up your liver. I just followed my doc's advice and drank occasionally, in moderation.

It worked extremely well for me. By the end of the treatment period my spots were gone, and I vary rarely get them now, if ever. But my brother had less luck; he had to go on it for a second course with an interval in between (for safety) and, while his skin is much clearer than it used to be, he hasn't had quite the same success.

Very very dry everything.
Moisturize.
beyond that, didn't have any other problems

How bad does it have to be to get this prescribed?

I also had a second run, and a friend of mine took it three times. It's worth it. I don't drink anyway but I was also told about avoiding alcoholic beverages. And lip balm (I used a french one, Ceralip or something) was a necessity, plain and simple. Besides sunscreen, obviously.

How long does it take for the dryness to be noticeable?
>> Anonymous
>>285873
You'll probably stop at 6 and check progress. Some people tend to need a longer course than others.

it took me 5 days before my lips were cracked and would bleed if I open my mouth to wide (eating a burger)

I had really bad acne, and had to run it twice years ago. You'll be doing monthly blood tests (forgot the reason why), but in the end it's worth it. Just remember, it doesn't treat scars.

As another anon have mentioned, everything will get dry. Just remember to carry lip balm; Burt's Beeswax works like a charm. Probably would need some eye drops too.

anyone else felt really damn itchy when taking this? and nosebleeds?
>> Anonymous
>>285970
Nosebleeds occurred once in a while, but it was nothing serious.

Can anyone answer this?

Mine's in the moderate range but makes me feel disgusting looking all the same. I want it gone.

To add: neither salicylic acid nor benzoyl peroxide (used for about 3 weeks before deciding it wasn't having any effect) have had any effect and I need a solution.

i was prescribed this but found out its like $200/mo
what the fuck plus monthly blood tests and monthly doctor visits?
i cant afford that shit
FUCK... AN HERO

I took acutane for a couple years on and off and had virtually no acne during treatment and still don't 5 years post.

sucks to be poor.

I had some embarrasing acne - cystic type on my chin and forehead.. I took accutane for 3 months and it was like a nuclear weapon. Took out things that nothing could effect. It was simply amazing.

The doc said I could continue the treatment for another round if I wanted to clean up the last 5-10% of minor acne left. I told him no, and then stuck to a regimen of neutrogena cleaner and oxy for touchups.

My lips remoisturized pretty instantly. The remaining acne mostly went away for the occasional whitehead.

If you think it is too expensive for this miracle drug, then your acne isn't bad enough. The people that need accutane are tired of being shunned and honestly it's a small pittance towards being able to go out in public.

Get a job, work as many hours as you can, save the cash, sell something, suck dicks on Craigslist etc. Make it happen.

OP-
Ro/accutane can lead to your hair thinning/loss earlier than if you were genetically inclined to it.
Just heads up.

seriously? did it happen to you?

I'm taking a low dosage right now 10-20mg a day, am I at risk?

I am very surprised that no one has mentioned the psychological side effects of acutane. I was on it a while, don't be surprised if people ask why you're acting different. Iit'll mess with your head and depress you.
>> Anonymous
>>286640
I was never depressed on accutane. Not everyone has the same side effects.

Lies. I just finished a 6 month run in june. I had cystic acne, and countless cocktails of antibiotics and creams did nothing for me. Accutane killed my acne dead in four and a half months, and I haven't had a zit since. One blackhead after four days of not showering/sweating in the sun (road trip).

anyway, here's what I did:
plain moisturizer in the morning, cover entire face.
carry chapstick
wash my face with water only at night, minimal scrubbing.
I never wore sunscreen, but I did it during the winter.

As for depression, I don't think there's a connection at all. I was extremely depressed before accutane, and during those months I had some epiphanies and whatnot and lost my teenage angst. I believe the only reason they list it as a side effect is because a politician's son committed suicide on it and suddenly the we had a new demon.

PS. Don't drink on it. It won't kill you, but it'll fuck your liver, and afterward you'll have trouble drinking for the rest of your life. Pot however, does not interact with accutane in any way.

If your family has a history, it may happen to you.
I had it in some small measure, but now I have normal hair after a perscription.

was on a 6 month course in high school. 6 months of dry and cracked lips, but acne has never come back

I dunno I actually feel more confident on accutane

maybe a little tired since I'm dry all over

I'm on my 3rd week of treatment. Two doses a day of 20mg. I had a headache for about week but it went away. Now it's just the dry skin, for now. I also got some antibiotic liquid to spread on my face as the doctor said that the isotretinoin would make the acne temporarily worse after about two weeks. I hardly noticed such a change but I have noticed that using the antibiotic is extremely effective. The areas of my face with a lot of spots are already on the next morning noticeably less red. But the improvement lasts only for the days I use the antibiotic and then it goes back to whatever stage of improvement the isotretinoin has caused until then (or so I assume).

Oh yeah, I forgot that the doctor also pretty much tossed me with some intensive cream, Decubal. It works great and my lips haven't cracked yet. Also my skin is a little irritable to touch now (very uncomfortable to dry with a towel after showering) and the cream fixes that too.
