/fit/ I just heard a nutritionist on TV say "The beer gut is a myth because there is no fat in beer."

Now, I dunno about whether beer causes a beer belly, but her justification that "no fat in it --> no fat in your body" is ricockulous RAAAAAGE

I heard that on spike manswers from a bartender trying to sound smart. I lol'd pretty hard

Manswers pretty much just bullshits and caters to whatever men want to believe.

A FUCKING NUTRITIONIST FFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

Nutritionists and Registered Dieticians are arguably the least qualified genre of degree that exists. i cant think of a worse qualification/job type.

It's a myth in the sense that there's nothing special about beer that gives you a certain type of gut--it's just that beer has a lot of extra calories that people who live a beer-drinking, football-watching lifestyle tend to not burn off. Pair this with the fact that beer goes well with various unhealthy munchies, and it's easy to see where the correlation developed.

That's like a qualified archaeologist saying creationism>evoloutionary theory.

Beer is basically alcoholic, liquid bread.>>338332Also that

Uhhh, someone's stuck in the 80s.

Excess carbs are as bad if not worse than excess fats. Now if someone's getting trashed they're probably drinking late in the evening, and probably a couple pints worth. It's a lot of excess calories to fall asleep having consumed.

beer is actually not too bad for your diet. good beer can help you out and your average bottle of beer has about as many calories as a couple of cookies.

my after run breakfast consists of an IPA, three cigarettes and some natural peanut butter on toast.

Regular drinking of alcohol can cause inflammation and swelling of the liver, resulting in a bloated gut appearance.

regular EXCESSIVE drinking. drinking a beer every day at lunch wont hurt you. drinking ten ounces of vodka at lunch everyday will.

qualify this? are u russian?

where is that 'fact' from? good beer has a bundle of nutrients, but what of vodka, i dont know.
>> the ides of march !!7Z/3gj5ZXsu

Vodka is prized on its purity, i.e. the closest you can come to just alcohol and water without it tasting like just alcohol and water.

So I would say there are a fuckton more nutrients in a good beer than VODAK.

True, but if we're going by alcohol volume then vodka is the breakfast of champions.

I know beer contains estrogen, so if you drink a lot of it you get real mantits, even if you work out. That said.. the amounts are extremely small, so you must drink a lot for a long time.

I heard alcohol promotes higher cortisol levels in your blood stream. Cortisol being a stress hormone works to make you fatter.

>>338273"The beer gut is a myth because there is no fat in beer."
LOL. excess calories and other factors make you fat. fat is 9 calories per gram, carbs are 4. if you drink 4,000 calories a day, and sit on your ass, you will be fat.

>>338332t there's nothing special about beer that gives you a certain type of gut--it'

true.

>>338358Excess carbs are as bad if not worse than excess fats.

Somewhat true, but this depends on your genetic disposition. Do you have diabetes in your family? Then yes, too many carbs are bad. Do you have heart attacks and strokes w/ atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries and plaque)? Then the fats are the bad ones.

Of course, all excess is bad. Too much CHON will lead to kidney/liver problems, inflammatory issues in joints, and other shit.

>>338445I know beer contains estrogen

Sauce plox. No.

>>338449alcohol promotes higher cortisol levels

True. A factor among many that contribute to the problem.

I was taught:

protein 4 kcal/g
carb 4 kcal/g
alcohol 7 kcal/g
fat 9 kcal/g

And I was taught that gasoline was 45kcal/g.
MOTHERFUCKER.
WHEN I BULK, I'M JUST GONNA DRINK FUEL!

Too bad that like alcohol, the body can't metabolize gasoline.

You are correct. But, there are more or less the same amount of grams of alcohol, as there are grams of carbs in your beer. Fermentation of beer is the conversion of a portion of the carbohydrates by yeast to create alcohol. Yeast is good, but not perfect at the conversion, which is a good think when talking taste, as beer would be colorless and like moonshine if it were.

The carbs and stuff left over is what gives beer it's taste, and lots of unconverted sugars. Good brewery efficiency is over 60% or so. But then again, it depends on what type of beer you are making.

It's a myth because there isn't any "substances" in beer that specifically cause build up of lower body fat.
It's just all of the calories and the amount drank at the time with insufficient exercise to burn it all off that causes beer guts - Not the beer itself.

Beer doesn't contain estrogen. However, alcohol is pretty good at lowering testosterone, which is ironic since beer is regarded as a manly drink.

this is correct. there is no fat in beer.

So what if you just don't eat all day and consume your 2,000 calories in a drinking session...does it even out?

ethanol has ~150 calories an ounce and alcohols aren't very different from lipids.
