In theory NO, in practice, yes very much so.
I did it :P, it is very possible, i dont really count calories as i find that it can add unwanted stress which will destroy muscle anyway.
Of course you need to eat a minimum to stay alive and keep your muscle from going catabolic, but with the right amount of proper weight training and cardio, there is NO reason why you cant LOSE FAT and GAIN MUSCLE.
The more muscle you gain, the more calories you burn, its that simple.
I went form 15% Body fat at 162pounds to 4.2% body fat and 178 pounds, with out changing my diet, just stick to the basics, drink water, do cardio 3x per week etc.
Im just saying it is possible :P
