don't worry about it man. we all gotta start somewhere. keep at it and you should see strength gains in no time.

my bench max is 205 btw. i started being barely able to press 95 lbs. true story.

glad there are at least a few other weight liftingfags on 4chan, what are your goals from lifting guys? i train for strength and athleticism, hence the olympic lifting and compound lifts (im the poster with the squat and powerclean PRs etc)

this means i dont do curls

if your just starting out, your best bet for strength and size gains are compound exercises like bench press, deadlift, squats and pull ups.

lol yea if you wanna become a benchfag. if u just bench you're gunna be heavily out of proportion.

I do 120 ):

OP here. 305 is a piss-poor bench. I've only been lifting weights seriously since August of 2007. Granted, I did lift weights all through high school and I gained some of that strength back. Also I weigh 230, which helps.

A bench press in the high 200's/low 300's is not difficult to achieve for a healthy adult male weighing over 200 pounds.

I want to be compete in powerlifting at some point, so good bench numbers are a must for me. I find most people can benefit from more overhead pressing and less benching actually.

>>6758

The bench press, while an excellent upper body lift and bellweather of chest, shoulder and arm strength, is not the last word in strength development. Focus on getting as strong as humanly possible in these exercises-

*Squat
*Deadlift
*Overhead press
*Pullup
*Row

along with the bench press and you'll have strength to spare in any task.

It really is. Also, as a fledgling Oly lifter, your bench numbers don't really matter. Drive up your front squat, clean and push jerk numbers.

You'll find that after getting significantly stronger in any sort of overhead press (particularly strict militaries) benching is ho-hum in comparison.

Thing you might want to try if you're stuck on one weight
1) Form: form should always be kept in check at all times. For benchpress your shoulders should be straight. Shoulder blades should come close at the ends. Don't arc your back, keep it straight at all times.

2) Tricep workouts: because benchpress does require that muscle group. try doing tricep pulldowns, or close grip bench press.
