Hey, /fit/

I've heard that the best way to burn fat is to replace it with muscle. I have strong abs from rowing and have recently lost about 30 pounds by running 5 pmiles a day, but instead of losing abdomenal fat, I've gained leg muscle.

So should I be doing abdomenal workouts instead? If so, how many should I do? Any suggestions?

Can I help you?

Doing abdominal exercises won't make you lose abdominal fat faster. Body fat is spread out throughout your whole body, thus it is burned simotaneously.

I suggest eating healthier and if it's lower ab you're trying to loose fat from, do lower ab exercises. Running is great cardio, but will not give you any stomach muscle.

So running still helps lose weight at about the same rate as if I were attempting to gain abdomenal muscle?

Just lurk for a while. Honestly.

You don't replace fat with muscle. They are separate parts of your body and not interchangeable. You lose fat then gain muscle, or gain muscle then lose fat.

If you're gaining leg muscle instead of losing fat, it means you're eating too many calories and not burning enough off. Take off 500 calories from whatever you're eating, run a little harder and longer, and watch the results.
