Wood Chopping Anonymous
Hello /fit/ -

I'm chopping wood. I have what I would estimate to be a pile about as large as the cubic volume of 1.5 minivans. I've never done this sort of labor before and I've only ever entertained the idea of working out, to be honest, so I'm not exactly fit. I weigh 135lbs. So basically, this is going to take a couple weeks.

I'm curious about what muscles I'm working. How should I be eating to make sure I'm building as much muscle as possible? How do I maintain/keep working whatever I gain from the experience? Which muscles am I not working that I should do something else to build?

And if it's at all relevant, I'm using an axe and a maul.

very true, chopping wood is no joke. I would think you will be using your lats, delts, traps etc. Works your back and shoulders real well. Make sure you are getting enough protein and carbs because your body is going to need the energy especially if you aren't in great shape.

Today was my second day. I usually go to bed at around 2AM in the summertime, but last night I was asleep by 11 and I can already feel myself starting to crash right now at 6.

Oh, also, I'm doing a little in the morning (11am) and a lot in the evening (4pm) to avoid the sunlight. My house is situated so that the hours in between are in direct sunlight but my work area is covered by trees' shadows at those other times. It was 90 today.

I like how the first volumetric unit of measurement that came into your mind was 'the minivan'. Not the cubic yard, the minivan.

Because when you measure wood, you never think, "I believe I have about 1.5 yards of wood to tear through this season..."

If you're using good form when chopping wood, a good excercise to do once all the wood's gone would be using a slam ball. Or do it the old fashioned way, with a sledge-hammer and old tire.

Do britfags use yards? I don't even know.

Why don't you use a chainsaw?

Because it turns out I like chopping wood.

because he's splitting wood, not chopping it.

Otherwise, be sure you stretch and eat a lot. CLIF bars are a good idea, but be sure you eat. If you tend to favor a side when you pull back the axe, be sure to switch to the other side so you can get a work out on both sides. Take a rest day so that your muscles can recover. Drink water, wear safety glasses, and enjoy the tranquility that comes with smashing out all of you aggresion.

Another 4chan epiphany - Zen = smashing out aggression so the rest of the time you can be a successful Buddhist. Fuck, the Shaolin monks had it right all the time.
