Anyone here have any experience with Staphylococcus (MRSA or Staph)?

Just curious if it's contagious or not ... in b4 WebMD, google, see a doctor, I don't actually have it.

I haven't googled nor am I a health professional, but from what I have heard on the news was that they are contagious. Wards need to be put in isolation when it is found.

sage-ing a fail thread.

Troll? I'll bite, regardless.

Shit is contagious like you wouldn't believe. And once you get it, it can be nigh impossible to get rid of.

Fucking nightmare.

Alright, got it. I just figured since it was a bacteria a lot of people have that lies dormant, I can't catch it from someone who has it. Creepy guy at work has it, so I am concerned :/

unless you have naked wrestling at work don't worry about it

What about touching all the same stuff? Can it spread through direct or indirect contact?
>> Anonymous
I have heard only direct skin to skin contact

Although, last year there was a MRSA outbreak and in my HS fitness center we had to use these ultra disinfectant wipes on anything we came remotely close to sweating on (so, pretty much everything).

Either way, you dont want a staph infection

Staph infections can often present themselves looking like, but not limited to, spider bites in the community. MRSA is a very resistant form of Staph aureus, and you certainly don't want it. IV vancomycin is often used to treat it. Keep in mind not all Staph infections are MRSA. Aslong as you get treatment early, you'll probably be okay. As far as catching it, keep sanitary and dont go rubbing up against someone who has it.

MRSA is fucking everywhere in the hospitals. Community acquired MRSA is also showing up.

Do you need to worry about it? No. Unless you work with patients directly who have it. Some people are even colonized with it, and don't even know it. Staph aureus resides in your distal nostrils, and can commonly cause skin and soft tissue infections and pneumonia, but you've gotta be pretty sick to get pneumonia. If you get a MRSA boil, pop it, drain the fluid, and clean that shit up.

>Community acquired MRSA

The Department of Redundancy Department called, they want their bullshit back. Stop talking out of your ass when you clearly have no idea what it is you're talking about.

The outbreaks I've had are like spiderbites. They are fucking terrible. I have a divot in my leg where I had my first one. Looks like I had surgery to remove a chunk of leg.

OP, this shit is very resilient and can survive on just about any surface. Why do you think most gyms provide those cleaning wipes to use on equipment?

It IS appearing in the community. It's just a matter of time. Hospital acquired becomes hospital associated becomes community acquired.

50% of people carry Staph.
Staph is contagious mainly by what we touch, it's a food intoxication, so by mouth, throat, stomach nose or eyes.
If someone has it and touches their throat nose eyes.. stuff like that, mouth as well, and then touches you, then you can get it as well.
and yes 1 out of 2, 5 out of 10, whatever the 50 percentile is, thats how many people have it. 50%.
