i used to be a competitive intercollegiate rugby player, and i had always been fit and playing sports at some level for most of my life. then a series of injuries unfortunately forced me to give up the sport that i love. this only was just one of many incidents that occured over the course of a couple of years that led be to being diagnosed with major depression, PTSD, and anxiety/panic disorder. These panic attacks gripped me for almost two years and this is something that i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy.
long story short, it was only as recently as march that i was still in the grips of my major depression and was suicidal. at this point i started making major life changes, including becoming physically fit again. After about a half of a year of hard training, i am perhaps as fit as I have ever been in my life. I am currently training for a marathon, and have been running competitively for a month now. Much of my mental health issues are gone, although i still do get depressed from time to time. although working out and running helps an incredible amount. it has been key in winning my mental health battle.
although its ancedotal my keys have been to stay fit and active physically, cut out negative people from my life, change the job that was a major stressor in my life, cut out alcohol entirely, get a regular sleep schedule....oh....and smoking weed helps too =)
