hey /fit/

I'm 140 lbs and 5'10.

I'm on a schedule of push ups and sit ups. I do 2 sets of 25 every night. I raise my limit of each by 5 every week. Will this help me develop abs? If not what kind of exercises can I do to help obtain abs, I don't have any machines to work with.

Push ups will do little for abs. Do planks. And alternate your sit-ups with kne raises. Your muscles will get used to the repitition of situps, so change what you do everyday so your body constantly adapts.

there's a good chance that you already have good abs, you just need to lose more body fat. if you have poor-looking abs and low body fat, it's also possible that it's just genetics: remember, exercise can't change the shape of the muscle, only the size.

as for specific exercises, squats, deadlifts, and overhead presses are enough for me. the job of the core is to protect the organs and, more importantly, stabilize the body, and exercises that use the core to stabilize the body are enough, IMO.

The BEST abdominal exercise is bicycle crunches.

Sounds like the captains chair. That was the second best exercise according to this: http://www.acefitness.org/getfit/abstudy_results.aspx

Hanging leg lifts are different then using one of those dip bar/ab things.
