sup /fit/

I have been noticing recently that i am having to drag myself to the gym. I find it harder to get myself motivated. So my question is, how does /fit/ stay motivated?

Yeah, at 290ish I see a nice, funloving guy but at 170 I see a douchebag.

Set a goal for yourself, make gains towards that goal.

Fuck, this asshole lost 4 pounds a week. Is this even real?

I will sometimes not want to go to the gym. But, I go anyways... kind of out of habit.

I also get really fucking depressed if I don't exercise. So, theres my motivation to exercise.

Join a gym with lots of hot twentysomething blond girls? This is why I work out at the college where I work... I had a private gym membership but why look at soccer moms when I can look at the cream of the sorority girl crop?

My advice OP take a week off.

The easiest way to deal with this problem is to quit going to the gym for exercise. Instead, do things which are both exercise and of immediate utility for the rest of your life (IE ride a bike to work, go out running/jogging/walking when you need a break from everything else, do pushups/situps/etc. to get your blood flowing at school and work). Don't exercise because you don't want to be a fat fuck, but DO go outside and run around because it's a beautiful day out there and you should go enjoy it.

Good tip for those of us in college. I do the same. It also serves as a decent way to meet some girls, so there's two things to motivate there.

But setting new goals could help, like if you've plateu'd somewhere, see if you can't break through it or something. Or in your cardio, if you can only run x minutes, make it x + 5 or something.

Man I hate workout buddies. Just as much as I hate shopping buddies.

I'm happier after I work out. I go because I know it'll make me feel good, and I'll be hating myself all day if I don't.

I just remind myself of my ambitions and goals. Every work out for me starts poorly. I drag myself an hour late to the gym, stretch and then listen to music for like 10 minutes to set the mood.

Of course, one I've started, I don't stop. I push myself until I can't think at all, and afterwards I'm utterly content with the world.

It will always be boring after the first couple months. The real secret is to make it a routine. I always tell myself I'll exercise at 9 PM and always do it at 10 PM.

The other secret is to think about other people. I read http://www.rosstraining.com/blog/ and he ussually has some awesome motivational shit there.

For example

http://www.powerliftingwatch.com/node/8716 is todays

A 73 year old man deadlift 481 pounds. You're how much younger and yet you're how far away from that?

get a gym buddy. Not only does it kinda force you to go, you can get a little riskier on the bench press and other lifts with a guaranteed spotter.
