Hey /fit/, I has a question. I'm a bit overweight (5'11" and 188lbs) and have started running every day and am trying to avoid sugar and excess carbs in order to lose some body fat. Is it normal to get kind of congested and mucusy when you run? I have a deviated septum, so I have to breathe through my mouth when I run, as my nose basically fails. I end up having to hock up a lot of mucus and spit.

happened to me when I first started running, then the mucus goes away. I'm addicted to Afrin because of my deviated septum, and if i don't take it before i run my endurance drops. don't recommend using afrin, but it does help me sleep and with my running. if i don't take it i can't use my nose for anything.

I use benedryl nightly for allergies and sleep, but that doesn't do much for the congestion. Maybe it's just because I'm in really bad shape?

My teeth hurt when I run because I don't take good care of them. Lolz I'm a dental technician.

If the airs too cold it could be damaging to your lungs to breathe through your mouth

It's like 75 F out, so probably not the issue.
