How do you develop well-toned (but not huge and protruding) abs and a lean waist if you're a guy?

It all comes down to subjecting your abs do a higher level of stress than they are accostumated to. So if your physical activity consists of walking and sitting down you might need something more intense such as weighed abs exercises or ceiling squats.

First off, what are your current stats? Cause if you're like 250 pounds already, I can guaran-fucking-tee you that you'll never be one of those lean looking guys. Former fatties have two options:

Deal with lots of loose skin after losing weight

OR

Bulk up like a motherfucker and fill out the skin with muscle.

Basically, your waist will never be lean and cut if you've ever been over 30% body fat unless genetics are REALLY in your corner. That's just the way adipose tissue works. It's the same way for body builders, sadly, just look at Arnold's body today after he stopped training, it turned into a deflated sack of cat piss.
