is it okay not to eat meat? Anonymous
hey /fit,
long time lurker, first time poster.

i currently dont eat any meat. not out of some moral issue. in fact i eat it every now and then but its not part of my usual diet.

my usual diet consists of 2500 calories a day, with 86 grams of fat and 75 grams of protein. i also eat lots of veges and take a multivitamin every day as well.

my question is should i be eating meat?
i mean from my diet i eat plenty of fat thats very low in saturated fat and im eating more then enough protein.

is the whole "you should eat meat vegetarians are unhealthy" thing just because people that dont eat it are usually not making up for the lost fat and protein and hence become unhealthy?

if you do eat a balanced diet is it okay not to eat meat?

thanks.

if you're not working out or anything, that diet should be fine

Meat gives you shit that you can't get anywhere else. I recommend adding it to your diet.

OP here, not working out atm but would like to in future, what benefits would meat provide?

could you also elaborate on what 'shit' in meat there is that i can't find elsewhere?

thanks.

Try and eat a fair few mushrooms every day; they're a good replacement for meat.

OP here, i eat a (hard boiled) egg each day as well as yogurt. i also have 3 x 1mg omega3 fish oil tablets each day as well.

im prepared to eat meat as long as i know what value it holds for me.

There's a reason the American Dietetic Association says Vegetarian and Vegan diets are suitable for every stage of life.

Nobody needs meat to be healthy. You're fine. Especially eating eggs and dairy - you get all the protein you need.

The only "shit" that people say makes Vegetarians/Vegans unhealthy is that b12 is most readily found in meat. It's also found in soil, but since we wash our vegetables with sterilizer, we kill it (bacteria). If you're really worried about it, take a supplement.

People who bash supplements for being "unnatural" - all milk is fortified with everything that it claims makes it "healthy". On it's own it has no nutritional value. Google it.
