Hey, /fit/, I'm raging right now.

My university's bench press stations have those safety pin things on either side for when benching by yourself. However, the pins on each one are broken so they won't actually function to catch a bar or even hold it.

I emailed the university to let them know. They emailed the manufacturer of the bench press station.

Bench press manufacturer reported back: To encourage people to use spotters, they are no longer making bench press stations with safety pins.

So my university will be replacing each station with one that doesn't have safety pins at all at the end of this year.

what is this guy talking about? Is he talking about the lower tiered racks on the bench where you put the bar when u cant get it up all the way? Ive never heard of pins that would "catch a bar"

lulz at the tools at your school who cannot bench properly. Use a power rack if you has no spotter. Or dumbbells.

i'm using power rack now because of this, but there's only 3 and there are always people doing squats

i didn't wanna be a dick and do bench in the power rack

but i will now

>>398552
sorry for using english you can't understand, anon
"catch a bar" == "can't get the bar up all the way, so you lower it"
"catch" doesn't mean "stop during freefall"

>>398530
Thanks, anon, I used this in my latest correspodence with the gym as I try to change their policy of choosing less safe options on purpose.

contact your universities welding program, use your brain dumbshit, or gtfo out of college!, take that shit in there, draw up the bracket, have them fab it, and then bring the bench press in, itll take 20 minues to weld em on and about 15 minutes to cool down, then your shit will be AOK and the university will eat it up so they dont have dead students on the bench.
>> Anonymous
>>399223
You don't need to weld it on. He could drill holes in the bench to give it a couple adjustable heights or something.

so let me get this straight: you don't want to bother people by asking them for a spot AND you don't want to do dumbbell bench presses for some goddamn unknown reason, but you're more than willing to take away the power rack from people that do squats.

wow, gg douche.

one day was gonna use some dumbbells to bench. but i couldn't get them up to chest level to even begin benching

>they isolate the pec more so you get a better pump brah.

droll troll is droll

>>399431

Rippetoe said dumbbells are better because they involve a more intense workout and use more stabilizer muscles, but not the fly part
>> Anonymous
Yeah i dont have a spotter either, encourages me to bench or die trying.
>> Anonymous
stop being a pussy. dont go to failure dumb fucking pussy.
>> Anonymous
>>399223
hah, you must have a really small university if that works--i go to one of 50,000+ students and if i suggested that they'd prolly arrest me for being a turrist

>>399497
i don't go to failure, i do 5x5, but you have to push yourself to get that last set of 5 reps done

it's not like when i'm on my last rep i know whether i'll be able to do it or not and decide from there--i try to do #5. If I can't, since I'm currently in the power rack due to my university's aids, i bail and the safety bars keep me from crushing my trachea.

If I can, I win.

Dumbbells are better because it forces both your arms to develop at the same rate. You might end up with a dominant right arm when benching a barbell.
>> Anonymous
>>399380
Aahh! The symptoms reveal themselves of depending excessively on a particular device shape. Varying your exercises, you have 600 different muscles in your body. Target the same ones slightly differently. You depend too heavily on those pins.

Let's say you're trying to be an athlete. A lack two pins shouldn't stop such a strong trained person. You sir need to use lighter dumbbells. Your arm muscles aren't strong enough to lift them to the correct height.

Benching with a bb is not exactly the same exercise as with db.

protip: its only the faggot weaklings who have this obession with getting a spot on the BP

did you ever think that 'being that guy' isnt helping you improve? the standard rule is you do not deserve the spot unless A. its over 315 *or you are under 150* AND B. its a max attempt.

board work included

What the hell do you care about benching for? You should be doing more squatz.

Barbell presses against your glenoid fossa
