Yesterday on my way to work at a bit after 4am, I blacked out while driving. Next thing I knew my car had crashed into a tree and a house, my air bag had gone off, car horn blaring, smoke everywhere... 7 cop cars, an ambulance ride to the hospital where I spent over 5 hours, later, I was sent home with both hands completely bandaged with second degree burns.

My concern and question for you however, is I worry about it getting infected... I know it is pretty soon after but I got quite a lot of sleep last night and yet am very drowsy, my throat aches quite a bit, both wounds have an odor and the right one kept dripping pus and soaks through the bandaging within two or three hours. Is this normal? Should I contact a doctor? Am I developing an infection?? I am quite concerned...

I have included four images, two of each hand, and two of each hand with the levels/contrast adjusted to really show how they look, the flash really washed them out and don't give the wounds justice.

TL;DR LOOK AT MY GROSS HANDS AND HELP PLEASE

wtf, you black out at random? try solving that one first
>>
go see your docter

sounds like you might be feverish

either way its not worth risking a bad infection on your hands
>> Anonymous
didn't they give you antibiotics at the hospital?

I have never blacked out like that before; however, I have been having issues with constant headaches, light headedness, and dizziness. The latest theory is I had a seizure (I had epilepsy as a small child, and everything else tested and mri/ct scans show nothing out of ordinary)

They only gave me pain medicine which I have not needed to use yet.

I am... terribly sorry, but Sir. You have a brain tumor.
Prepare for your end.
>> Anonymous
They didn't give you xeroform?

Your right hand looks terrible. What the fuck hospital did you go too?

Not only would I see a doctor, I would make sure to look up one (or a hospital) that has a quality burn unit. If those are real pictures of your hands, that looks bad.

If that infection worsens, you'll end up needing skin grafts. YOU DO NOT WANT SKIN GRAFTS.

Go see a doctor, seriously. Also consider hiring a lawyer to sue the doctors that let you out of the hospital like that.

As I said above, MRI and ct scan have both come back with normal results. No brain tumors for me. However on a more positive note, I got a CD of my MRI; Here is a picture of my brain!

Is it seriously that bad?? Yes, they are real pictures of my hands, I took plenty pictures If you would like more. I went to Beaumont, which is the only hospital around here that I really thought I could trust when the ambulance asked where I wanted to be taken :( The pain medicine they gave me is called "Hydrocodone/APAP 5mg/500mg Tabs"? And they gave me a small amount of 1% Silver Sulfadiazine Cream. Is this not good enough? The nurse who bandaged me certainly didn't know much...

So the first place you go to for advice is a fitness messageboard where you have to type with your burnt hands and whose users are all retards who don't have a clue about fitness, let alone medicine?

Troll.

If his hands were in that condition, how the fuck can he type three paragraphs. No excuses either liar.

Typing on the computer seems like a perfectly sensible way to reciver from a hand injury to me.

Everyone: the bottom two pictures look really bad because of the lighting, and because it's a day later and bruising has had time to appear.

OP: The wounds aren't that bad. Follow the ER doc's instructions. Keep them clean and bandaged and try putting some OTC antibiotic ointment on them. They're going to look worse before they look better. If they aren't healing well in a week or so, go back to the doctor.

Ok, listen.
If that doesn't look bad to you, no wonder you didn't get some sort of diagnosis for your dizziness, etc.

Dizziness and blacking out ARE NOT NORMAL.

Nor is black skin. That one should be a given.

Find a doctor, or a hospital. Whichever you like best.
Although I wouldn't suggest visiting the one that let you out with a probable infection.

As you can see in the pictures, the burns are around my thumbs. the other fingers are fine. I you really want me to I can time stamp and show my hands for you, but I am out of the medical gauze/wrap stuff. As for the forum, I've only ever looked at /b/, never here so I was unaware that a HEALTH board would be a bad place to share my injuries with

You should visit your doctor, and get some more gauze, and also ask about your hands.

(samefag here)

P.S.

I say this not talking out of my ass. I had horrific burns covering about 20% of my body and, in the process, learned a lot about them. I can tell you straight up that those are bad and either are or will be infected.

Why they didn't give you xeroform I don't know.

As it stands now, those are future skin grafts waiting to happen.
>> Anonymous
>>353049
Thanks for the advice, I will call the hospital tonight and ask about it. What is xeroform exactly?
>> Anonymous
>>353033

With those burns they should have taken you to a burn ward. If they don't have one, then whoever treated you wouldn't know shit about shit.

Find a hospital/doctor in your area that has a burn ward or a history of treating burns. Those are every day burns, they are ripe for infection. . . especially the right hand which already looks too pussy.

I promise you that talking to a doctor who has experience treating burns, s/he will immediately tell you that you need more than some gauze and pain-killers.

No... you will call the hospital, NOW.

Don't be an idiot.

It's gauze covered in vaseline and antibiotics. Listen, everyone in this thread is being ridiculously dramatic/has never seen any kind of burn injury (with the exception of the guy you're responding to, who just wants to be important). Your burns are relatively minor. They look visually dramatic, but they're not that bad.
>> Anonymous
>>353057

basically synthetic skin that allows the wound to breath while keeping it safe from infection.

There's two major issues with burns.

1) The wound can't heal if kept too moist.

2) If exposed to the open environment, the potential for germs and thus infection increases.

Xeroform basically bonds to the wound and then falls off once the scab begins to fall off.

+1

Unless the pus turns funky colors, or redness on the borders starts increasing a lot.
>> Anonymous
>>353063

And you, of course, have a shit ton of experience with burns and treating them I'm sure.

If you think the bottom right picture is nothing much, you should not be advising anyone about anything.
>> well fuck your shit !SvVHiVQG4I
>>353069
Consider the lighting, the color of his non-burned skin. It looks ridiculously bad, but it's not. In decent lighting it would only appear slightly worse than the top pictures, which is to be entirely expected.
>> Anonymous
>>353078

Excuse me, but how do you know it only "looks" bad?

I'm curious what expertise you have in gauging the difference in burn wounds that only look bad versus ones that actually are bad.

That's a large, moderately deep second degree burn. The very least he can hope for with the current level of treatment he's received is some pretty good scaring. If he's unlucky, that shit will get infected. They didn't even give him xeroform, for fucks sake, let alone show him how/what to clean away from the wound.

It will cost you almost NOTHING to at least have someone with experience with burns to look at the wound and it could (in my opinion will) save you from major complications.
>> Anonymous
OP, post a picture of your rightmost hand, in good lighting mind you. Please?
>> blah
They look fine. Keep the burns clean, but don't scrub. Change the bandages often.

Partial thickness burns look terrible.

Good luck,
Blah

OP, for the sake of discussion, might you take another picture of your rightmost hand, in good lighting, Thank you very much, kind sir.

They certainly aren't friction burns, obviously... How did your hands catch on fire? Were you huffing gasoline?
>> Anonymous
>>353121

The burns happened yesterday. They wouldn't be noticably infect yet.

The troublesome part is the size of the burns and the deepness.

I am once again asking what sort of qualifications or even experience you have. Someone who's well versed wouldn't be looking for infection the next day after a burn. They would be concerned about the likelihood of infection which, in a good sized burn, could lead to skin grafts.

I don't think he knows anywhere near as much as he's pretending. Even when he tried to act smart about knowing what xeroform was, all he did was look it up on wikipedia.
