The percentage of obese people in USA is troubling.
I don't live in the country, so i'd like to know the point of view of USAans.

We don't like it either, only select few actually do something about their weight.

It's strange, I live in Pittsburgh PA, it's supposed to be a very 'large' area but I don't see that many fat people.

I mean the ones that are overweight I see are usually near morbid obesity so they usually weigh down the stats more (pun intended) but I haven't see this 'epidemic' yet.

But I've heard it's more in the south and midwest anyway.

How do people become so fat? Is it the mentality, the lack of time to exercise, mutant food?
>> Anonymous
american living overseas (asia; not military)

i'm pretty much amazed when i go back to the states. it's pretty disgusting, although i was a fatass myself when i was living there. being around skinny people made me get skinnier.
>> PetBot
I live in Texas, so I get to be around a lot of fat people.

I feel like it's not as bad as the media makes it though. Because when I go out, I see way more seemingly healthy people than obese people.

The guy seems so lifeless, it's almost depressing.
I bet they wouldve made his lips bigger if they could.

I see a lot more healthy people than I do fatties, though I guess they don't leave the house. I'm more concerned with the amount of borderline illiteracy I see in class.

all the above along with potential stress, lack of sleep, all the basic stuff. But the worst problem is laziness if anything, once we get it we don't do anything about and/or find an excuse not to do it.
>> Anonymous
I'm torn about it
It's nice to be more fit than such a high percentage of the population, but on the other hand, fat chicks are gross
>> Anonymous
>>193919
the abundance of high calorie, huge portion meals. sitting in front of televisions and computers all day. and seeing other fat people often means there isn't a stigma about being obese. gradually more and more people just gain. it's been pretty gradual over a few decades.
>> Anonymous
I live in Texas and most of the people hear that are obese could probably stick their fist through your skull.

So, we're not necessarily fat, just big.

As they say, everything's bigger in Texas.

> Everything ladies :P

the mentality that vegetables, healthy stuff = gross tasting. Go ahead and ask, they'll tell you that spinach and salad or virtually anything healthy "tastes gross" and they'd rather have a burger. This is what I observe is the biggest difference.

I for one think a spinach salad with some chicken and dressing is a thousand times more delicious than a burger could ever hope to be. I want some right now.

I agree with some anons, after decades of having the industry decide whats in the food pyramid, well, what do you expect?

I predict hereby that americans will continue to get obese, while a small segment of americans will turn hyper-healthy. All those bodybuilding forums, including this one are just the beginning. All those supplements you see advertised are just the beginning.
I will even venture that there will be a split somewhere around 80% fatties and 20% normal, with a maybe 10% of the normals becoming hyper healthy and/or powerlifters and bodybuilders.

the best food pyramid is the triforce-shaped one with one triangle for legumes, one for grains/bread, one for vegetables/fruit, and the last one for meat/oils/etc...
You can't go wrong.

hahaha I read that too.
What good comes of this: we should all eat delicious asian food instead, curry and dumplings for everyone!

There are two types of fat people
99% of them who are fat fucks and stuff their faces with mcdonalds day after day and the 1% who are trying to better themselves, these are the ones that eat right and exercise but aren't making serious gains yet.

Many of them revert to the other 99% after some time but the ones that stick to it have my respect.
>> Anonymous
>>194067
dammit, I'm so in the 99%. I don't have enough drive in my life to whole heartily determined to lose weight, just when I feel as fat as I look.

You should either get in shape or kill yourself.
I used to be over 100 pounds overweight, I've lost 75 pounds I'm at 190 and I weight train every day and eat right. There is no reason to be fat.

There's evidence that obesity is also genetic and can be the result of a disorder.
>> Anonymous
>>194116
Ok but the people who physically cannot lose weight are such a small minority that most people who post here about being fat will definitely not have that problem.

Unless you know conclusively you are one of these people it's just an excuse "Well I'm not losing weight because I might have bad genetics..." BULLSHIT

a disorder called NO SELF CONTROL and Stuffyerfaceitis. Both have similar results.

Causes?
Ask any fatty, and there are 10/10 chances they have always had a fucked up relationship with food. Guaranteed. Either the parents have a role to play, or its self-inflicted malaise.

I have no respect of empathy for people like that. Fuck em.

If you are at least trying, then power on. Take command of your life.

I don't really care for the fatasses in america. That's why the moment I can, I'm moving out of the country. Where I live though (Austin texas) it's really active, so there aren't too many fat people, but still. Ew.
>> Anonymous
We don't like it. Usually it goes hand-in-hand with being dumb, ignorant and indulgent. Like most stereotypes, it's over exaggerated but still true. What really pisses me off is when fat people get offended that they're fat, and 99.9% of them aren't going to do anything serious about it. These are usually also the people who can't place Iraq on a map, think reality television is awesome, and talk very loudly on their cellphones everywhere.

"Is the obesity related health crisis in America just a big con? Many overweight people think so and they've formed a political lobby group, NAAFA, to fight back.

Their pin up boy is Prof Paul Campos who argues that doctors who tell people to lose weight to improve their health should be sued for malpractice. Instead of vilifying and discriminating against overweight people, NAAFA is pushing for greater acceptance of all body sizes"

I'm so humiliated that I live in the same country as those worthless shits. God, fat people that do nothing about their fatness anger me. It's not natural to be obese, just like it's not natural to be malnourished. Cavemen were NEVER any of those things, thousands of years ago there were rarely any overweight people. We bring it upon ourselves and that's what's frustrating.

I'm so glad my family doesn't have fat people in it. I never really realized how many of my friends had gigantic parents and now I'm starting to see it. When I see my mom and dad and brothers and sister, they're all completely normal. Thank God I wasn't raised into a family of monstrosities
>> Anonymous
It's kind of embarrassing having that percentage obese or overweight.

Though honestly, I don't really see said obese people that often, so either they're hiding in their homes eating, or they only come out at night.
>> Anonymous
>>194831
I don't think their meat would be very healthy anyways. I mean, they're covered in fat; the meat is going to be filled with fat. I just don't see how it can be healthy to eat the fatties.

We could kill them for sport though. But, it wouldn't be too hard. Not like they can run.

America is only the 9th most obese country in the world. But it's obvious that it will climb, life is becoming to easy. I mean, I'm 20 and I used to be pretty fit, not toned or anything. Just in decent shape. Now that I have a desk job.. I can tell I'm gaining weight. It's hard to balance stuff, but whatever.
>> Anonymous
>>194833

It depends where in the country you live too. I see a lot more fatasses here in New York than when I lived in Seattle. On the west coast it seemed like there was no middle ground. Either you were over 450 lbs. and got around in a little electric fatman scooter or you ran or cycled for hours every day, and looked like an athlete.
>> Anonymous
This is the main reason I'm losing weight.

I want to live in Europe as soon as I get the money together, but in the mean time I don't want to be the average fat American. So far so good, I've actually lost quite a bit of weight (starting into my second month)

The self control part at first was hard, but then I saw how much the typical American "indulges", and fast food doesn't really even appeal to me anymore.
