Anyone ever use low doses of pharmaceutical grade opiates to enhance workout routines?

I.E. 5mg of hydrocodone will massively enhance the number of reps I can do of a higher weight than I can normally do. Or the speed and distance I can run. I can do twice as much HIIT at like 1.5x the intensity. Of course, I'm balls-out dead the next day, but I've seen some pretty amazing results so far. It's like the benefits of steroids without the danger.

The only downside is that you can't take them too frequently because of the inevitability of physical dependence/addiction. It's good for a couple of times a week and that's pretty much it (you'll need the recovery time anyway).

No dangers apart from addiction?

Opiates block pain. So you won't be able to tell if you're injured.

But 5 mg is completely harmless, health wise. You need to take down about 40 mg to even have a chance of hurting your liver. and that's from the 500 mg of APAP in the pill, not the hydrocodone.

Drinking alcohol will destroy your liver if you take these though.

Addiction isn't really a danger if you have any willpower whatsoever. Hypothetically, if you injure yourself, you'd be prescribed a higher dosage to take multiple times a day for multiple weeks without worry about addiction. I'm talking about once a day, maybe twice a week. Unless you absolutely can't stand not having that slightly numb feeling, you aren't in any danger at all of becoming addicted.

There's no contraindication of alcohol and opiates except for potential respiratory suppression at high doses. Besides, the half life of hydrocodone is like 4 hours.

You're going to injure yourself. When you lift weights, lactic acid builds up in your muscles and causes the pain and burning sensations associated with working out. That's the body's self-defense mechanism, just like how there's swelling if you bump into something, or a scab forms over a cut.

By blocking this signal, you'll have no idea what you're doing to your joints, or worse, you could tear a muscle.

Steroids would actually be safer.

Although I wont disagree that the chance of injuring myself is probably higher, you don't really know what you're talking about.

Okay, enjoy your rationalized drug abuse and future injuries.

That's usually what drug abusers do when you point out they're abusing drugs - they lash out.

He said it's a "slight" numbness, so I imagine he would still be able to tell if he tears a muscle or something. The numbness is probably just enough to make the workout not feel like hell.

...I smoke weed and then excercise all the time.

My endurance is always ten times as great as when I'm not high. Of course, after I work out I have to be really careful not to overeat but I have enough discipline and enough experience with smoking to be able to keep my post-workout snacking to a minimum.

The people who make true body transformations don't just work out their bodies. They work out their minds. If you're using a crutch you don't absolutely need, you're cheating yourself.

But of course, the smart people will have already realized this and the arrogant will disregard it.

This is an owner-of-4chan point.

Lactic acid buildup is not a self-defense mechanism, dude. It's simply the product of muscle metabolisis. Besides which, lactic acid breaks down after 12 hours anyway, and the "soreness" hydrocodone actually prevents is the muscle inflammation that results from improper stretching.

Trust me, you can still feel pain on 5mg of any prescription narcotic- I don't care how drug-free you are normally. I personally see very little chance of someone seriously injuring themselves because of it.

Bodybuilders take ibuprofen before a hard lifting session to decrease muscle soreness. This is legitimate as long as OP doesn't intend to compete under the influence.

What. You made very little sense there, pal. 5mg of a prescription opiate is not going to cause significant phycological effects, even taken regularly. You should be aware of that if you claim to excercise your mind so frequently.
