Slowly ween yourself off it...that's pretty much it. If you're having trouble with not getting your regular caffeine fix (I'm not sure whether or not diet MD has any caffeine...I haven't drank any soda in years), try slowly replace it with some green tea (which has much less caffeine in it) for your caffeine fix, then just slowly switch to regular, plain ol' water.
No offense but...the "just slowly stop drinking it" method is pretty damned obvious.
