Surviving a building leap? Anonymous
I saw on ripplys believe or not, that a guy leaped off a 6-8 store building a survive with minor bruise and scratches. How? well the guy was doing a back flip all the way down until he was half way on doing about back flip in which his body was at a 45 degree angle and rolling backwards absorbing the shock. He did countless rolls with his head tucked in. its pretty amazing for someone to survive a fall from that height.

Let's see, at the top the person has Potential Energy. After the fall, right when the person lands, that Potential Energy becomes Kinetic Energy. But, since he rolled, he also made Rotational Kinetic Energy. Maybe that Rotational Kinetic Energy distributes the Normal Force from the surface to different directions such that it causes at little harm as possible, by not being perpendicular with the surface the moment of landing.

Unless he was also falling away from the building at a decent angle it wouldn't matter that he was rotating all the way down. If you fall perpendicular to the ground the only difference spinning around will make is in the way you ragdoll at the bottom.

Yeah, forgot that. The angle in which you land also has an impact on the damage received. The less perpendicular the fall, the better.

Actually I think the closer to parallel the better. Stuntmen safely roll out of moving vehicles, but the always use airbags when falling, even at angles. Your chances of coming away with nothing but scrapes and bruises increases greatly when you land parallel to the ground and roll.
