I'm an American without health insurance either. Hard to grasp that so many worldfags get it automatically (with higher taxes of course). I'm pretty poor and I'd gladly pay more in taxes for universal coverage.

lets get this straight

i AM ok w/'proper socialism' in the proper context.

ie. if EVERYONE paid my way through university and through grad school and through med school with benefits teh ENTIRE WAY, then i'd be fine with 'giving back' to all you plebs and accept a 'lower' salary and other downsides of socialist healthcare

but guess what? YOU DIDNT PAY FOR ME or ANYOTHER DOCTOR/HEALTHCARE PROVIDER to help bear that opportunity cost to get educated, so why is it OUR burden to fix YOUR PROBLEM?? HMMMMMM???

for this to work the ENTIRE system must become socialist too, bottom ---> up.

tl dr: MOVE, leave the US, anyother 1st world country will give you the socialized health care (and substantially higher taxes) that you crave for unqualified, replaceable, overlypaid blue collar work that you do.
>> Anonymous
I'm an American, a young guy living on my own, and I can afford health care. People who don't have health care are whiny bitches who have their priorities wrong.

You'd gladly pay for health insurance if only somebody would make it mandatory and threaten to put you in federal prison if you didn't do so, is that what you're saying? No, wait, it isn't what you're saying. You're saying that you think you'd be one of the people on the bottom whose health insurance would be free for him because everybody else has to pay for it under threat of imprisonment for tax evasion, aren't you?

If you can't afford health care, it's because you don't contribute to society sufficiently for society to reward you with the funds to do so. More likely though, it's because you don't know how to manage your money well enough to budget for your own healthcare. That computer you're sitting at right now could've not been purchased, and the savings could've been spent on a hear or more worth of good health insurance. Two years if you're a macfag.

My parents never bought a new car in their lives, but we all always had insurance. I had to buy my own insurance when I left home, and you know what? I fucking did it. I paid my insurance premiums, and I sat in my cheap apartment and ate ramen noodles, because I don't think everybody else in the world has to pay my way.

american health care is great

.......if you can afford it. too bad millions of people can't so they suffer for it. they would be better off in cuba health wise.

and yeah, even if you can afford health care guess what? that insurance company's main goal is profit. if they can screw you out of payment for medical treatment they will do it without thinking twice.

PROTIP

HEALTH CARE WILL NEVER BE FREE

Paying for your medical needs when they arise is cheaper than having the government tax the fuck out of you so the lardass down the street, who eats cheeseburgers all the time and never exercises, can have a "free" operation.

The only real problems with the american system are:
1. A focus on treating problems once they arise, rather than taking steps to prevent them.
2. HMOs. Third parties ALWAYS drive up prices. Get rid of those fuckers and prices will correct themselves, and doctors will actually have a fucking say in how they practice medicine.

The enraged, semi-literate and seemingly mentally incapacitated samefag in here is possibly the single dumbest non-troll poster I've seen in /fit/ in a while.

Anyway, on topic, I'm in Aus. There's public health care for everyone (durr), and private health care. My family is covered by private health care, and it's a pretty good thing - on my own, in the last two years, I've had a major surgery (correct pectus excavatum,) been to a slew of specialists on top of your average GP visits, and had CT scans, x-rays, EMGs and a fuckton of other shit. And I'm not even a dying wreck, mainly sports related injuries / shoulder problems account for a lot of this.

In the US, oh wow. Just no.
>> Anonymous
Just moved to Japan. There's universal health care here. I get to give the government about a hundred bucks a month with no possibility of opting out, and then I still pay around 30% of whatever it costs, and I don't like the quality of care I get either. I also wait forever because there's no economic triage keeping the riff-raff out.

Also, the private insurance I was paying for in America was cheaper and had better coverage. Go universal healthcare!

If half of your country is overweight, by their own choice, and everyone knows the additional likelihood/risk factors involved by allowing oneself to degrade to that level, you would NOT want to pay for that shit either.

2 people.
1 goes to the gym 10hrs a week, eats healthy, does preventive maintenance (@ his own cost)
the other is a lazy sack of fat shit, who eats McD's constantly, loves fried food and snickers, and smokes. he does NOTHING for his own health. his only expenses would ALL be comped by a universal health care system *ie. he pays nothing extra*
why should person A have to cover for the person B? person A will likely have minimal problems till the terminal drop @ age 70+. Person B will likely have consistantly progressively problems from age 40 on.

What I think people fail to realize is that with Universal Healthcare (I despise it so very, very much) not only comes higher taxes but greater regulations and restrictions to our daily activities, diets so on and so forth. Is that something you'd really want? Because its nice to think "oh the government loves me for the fat bastard I am and wants the best for me" no, they want your money and want to spend as little of it to keep the rest for themselves so they'll pretty much force you to be a healthy little fucker so you cost them less to make well.

Are you fucking mad? Have you ever stepped outside of amerifagland? Take the UK, for example. It has a universal healthcare system (let's set aside, for the time being, the issue of whether it works as efficiently as it should). Does this mean that TEH GOVERNMENT REGULATES ALL OF OUR LIVES? I think one of the worst things about America is its lack of universal healthcare. I also watched Sicko and was left feeling pretty disgusted at how people were left to die because they couldn't afford treatment, or weren't granted it on fucking ridiculous grounds ("people your age shouldnt have cancer, so we won't treat you for it").

I am a Britfag and I'm really proud that we have the NHS. Sure it's not a perfect system but it's an assload better than what the USA has. We might have to pay higher taxes for it but to be honest, I'm happy with paying a bit more so that my fellow man can get treatment when he needs it.
>> Anonymous

>Sure it's not a perfect system but it's an assload better than what the USA has.

No it's not. My insurance is better than yours and cheaper too. 85% of Americans have better insurance than you. Yes the 15% get screwed, but why the fuck should I care?
>> Anonymous
>>Yes the 15% get screwed, but why the fuck should I care?

because when they have to go to the hospital and can't pay the cost gets passed on to your insurance company via higher bills and they (insurance companies) pass the costs on to you via higher deductibles and higher premiums.
