I have SOME discipline but not enough... Anonymous
5'9, 180

I fit completely fit except for my gut and sides, which do the typical "hang over but just barely" thing you see with guys slightly out of shape. It's not noticeable with clothes on but I would feel a bit self conscious at the beach or with a girl (not that it matters, since this is 4chan hyuk hyuk etc).

Here's my problem: I LIKE working out and when I do it I go hard and include cardio, but I can't make myself stick to a schedule. I might lift and run 2 days in a row and then not again for a week, then one day, then not for 5, then one, then not for 4, then 2, etc... Food is the same way -- I eat well for the most part but average maybe 2 cans of soda per day and sometimes get fast food once a day for like 4 days just out of laziness or cravings.

I lift and run in the evenings and do it alone by preference, and while I realize that working out at the gym with a buddy is theoretically smart I probably won't start doing that. What can you suggest as ways to help myself stick to a schedule with more discipline?

Again, I am not fat and in fact I used to run cross country (gay, but it did wonders physically), and when I manage to start a workout I always enjoy it and follow through productively. But I am turning into that 20-something "just a tiny bit of gut" guy that exercises irregularly and I fucking hate it. Aside from "Be less of a faggot, faggot" and "grow some balls and man up" do you have any specific advice?

Get up in the morning, eat a small bit of breakfast, then exercise.

The most important part of sticking to a schedule is setting a goal and not accepting "I'll do it later" as a viable option. You have to be elated when you do something that pushes you toward your goal and be pissed at yourself when you fail.

Also, set a schedule and just do it. No excuses; you're not too tired. You didn't just eat too much food. You don't have a sore throat. Your fucking homework can wait. Just get it done on time every time.

I am pretty much the same way; if I "eyeball" it, it doesn't get done. So I have to set pretty strict guidelines for myself in order to make it seem more "official" and unflinching. Sounds archaic but it works for me!

Good idea, I will try this starting tomorrow in fact. I've been sleeping in too much recently anyway, so this is probably long overdue.

Do you actually have a list or calendar or something? I'm going to get something I can physically "X" off day by day since mentally setting rigid guidelines hasn't worked, haha.
