Hey /fit/, is there any way to stop/minimize callused hands during working out? Its been pretty bad lately (not me in the pic) and I feel like it will soon hinder me from working out and force me to take a break. I don't wanna where work out gloves though, cuz they smell like shit when I sweat in them. Any topical creams or suggestions out there?

grip grip grip

grip close to the wrist when doing push motions (squatz, bench press) and close to the fingers when doing pull motions (deadlifts, rows, chin-ups)

Just use a pumice stone and warm water to take them off after each workout

man i hate people who quote every post above them and say "YOU'RE ALL WRONG" without reading what the posts actually say

it's kind of a small niche, but i hate it nonetheless

How could they stop you if they're only callouses? If they are blisters, then get some cream and pressure elastoplast.

not sure i really see the problem with calluses. Unless they're really bad. Enjoy your tough leathery hands, wear them as a badge of honor, let everyone know you work hard and beat off harder.

i would keep lifting until you become immune. life is surrounded by factors of rebuilding tissues. they are completely non hindering.

Use hand wraps, tape, or lifting chalk. Or just man up like the rest of us and eventually your calluses will become to hard to take any skin damage.

it's fucking armor!!! You can put a lighter to them fingers. Or put baby powder in your gloves. Penis envy

Use the fucking gloves, and wash them everyday. There is no other way. The bar and handles aren't really hygienic to start with anyway.

To OP - Could you possible fill us in on what exercises exactly your hands start to blister and callus up? I have a similar problem, except I get VERY bad blistering and calluses that I have to file (incidentally, the same way the beast skills website does it, except with a pumice stone) after I do pull-ups and dead lift.

While I agree that some callusing and enduring a little bit of discomfort to harden up the hands is necessary, but when you start doing 20-30 plus pull-ups a workout and you pick up very heavy dumbbells (especially those godforsaken extra-serrated motherfuckers that every 24hr fitness has) and barbells (rows, deadlift, etc) you want to take care of your hands and prevent your calluses from ripping out, causing your hands to bleed all over the fucking place, and end up not being able to train properly because of it. Some people (myself included) get callused and blistered hands more easily than others.

By the way, gloves have no place whatsoever in weightlifting unlike straps, which I can find maybe a very few instances (snatch grip deadlifts, 2.5x bodyweight or more DL training, yes as you can tell I love deadlifts). No exceptions.
