Well, its a pretty common to mistake to kick ut up a notch towards the end. Instead you should start cooling yourself down and walk the last few hundred meter. Try stuff like running at top speed for short bursts while your are in the middle of running instead.
As for your pain in the leg.. i recommend taking a look at this site http://www.runnersworld.com/channel/0,7119,s6-241-0-0-0,00.html and see a doctor if the pains continue.
