So I've decided to start a new "plan" today.

The pool centre around 10-15 minutes walk from my house also has a fitness centre.

I plan on working out for about an hour, then lane swimming for an hour.

Thing is, I'm kinda new to working out and was wondering what the best plan to start was.

Also, if I go on a bike as opposed to a treadmill, how much of a difference is it? (Also, is swimming good exercise?)

Thank you in advance.

we can't tell you what is good for you if you dont state your goals

Swimming is a lot better than an exercise bike.

swimming is pretty good for cardio

but i wouldn't find it very enjoyable after a good session of SQUATZ
swimming, running outside and rope skipping are all better than bike or treadmill

You might want to start off with something lower intensity, unless you're already going at a slow pace, due to the fact that you're new to working out.

Bike, you have to go longer to get the same results as running, but it's low impact, so it's easy on your joints.

Yes, swimming is a good exercise because it uses your whole body. If you stick with swimming you'll definitely feel a difference after a few weeks.

As for a work out plan for beginners I would do this plan if today's workout is too hard for you:

I did that and I was in much better shape than I was when I didn't work-out.

My goal is to get in shape. I'm slightly overweight but nothing TOO horrible. I just wanna try and be an average, fit person.

Thanks for the input so far

Oops, I forgot to ask something. Due to the fact that I am going swimming after, should I concentrate less on the treadmill/bike in the fitness centre?

You will not be able to complete a decent workout and then swim for an hour, unless you're doing it all half-assed. I think you're seriously underestimating how difficult swimming can be.

tl;dr pick on or the other

Well I used to swim quite a lot when I was a kid but would alternating days of workout-swim be appropriate?

Or how about working out and then lightly swimming in the day? Or hell, just using the hot tub to relax.

Also, how long should a work out be?

Over 45 minutes is OVERDOING it.

So you suggest a half hour work out and maybe a half hour-an hour swim each day? (Or more or less of each depending on the circumstances?)
