Sup /fit/, I'm quite a fattie and I want to start doing HIIT.

I've heard that it can be a bad idea to do HIIT with running if you're overweight, because you can damage your joints.

But what if I bought knee braces and ankle braces to wear? Couldn't I just run all out if I did that and greatly minimize the chances of joint damage?

If not, how else should I do HIIT? My college has a gym, I guess I could do it on a stationary bike, but it doesn't seem as good.

Ellipticals produce zero stress on your joints, you can try that. And doing HIIT doesn't necessarily mean that you'd be doing a cardio exercise, you could just as well being doing some calisthetics.

Aerobic interval training.
Go easy for a while speed up for a while go easy again.
Continue in that fashion till you're either exhausted out of time or bored.

NO NO NO NO NO NO and NO. HIIT is not just interval training. It is its own category. What you're describing sounds more like Fartlek.

True HIIT is 10-20 seconds of MAXIMUM exertion, followed by 10 secs-1 minute recovery, depending on your fitness level. Thats one interval, so if you're able to do more intervals, then go for it. But if you really are out of shape, you shouldn't be able to do more than a few intervals.
