Option 1:You compete to be better than others Solution to losing: Get a picture of him. Go to Staples and have them print out a big copy, or do it yourself by tiling. Pin it to your wall, ideally where you work out. Use it as motivation to get better and win next time.
Option 2: You compete to overcome and improve yourself. Solution: Analyze the event over and over until you understand why he won (in all the tiny details), why you lost (again, in all the details). Keep doing it until you don't have an emotional response to it and also understand the whole thing such that you won't make the mistaken again (and can do it yourself if it will get you the win).
So, are you trying to smash his ego or your own?
