Whey protein Anonymous
My friend is interested in gaining weight/muscle mass. I recommended him Whey protein because I generally hear/read its a good way to do it. He is very lean and around 140 lbs. Here are some questions that he has for those of you on here that have had experience with whey protein:

"What type of whey protein should I get, concentrate, isolate and hydrolysate?"

"How much do would I take in a day and what are the general costs?"

"Any links that might be helpful?"

Thank you all for helping out. Any personal experience or suggestions are also very welcomed.

You DO NOT need 2 grams per lb.
1 gram per lb. is sufficient.
In general, you need to eat more. Get 5 meals a day with 400-700 calories each. Protein and complex carbs are the most important, but don't neglect fats. They are actually good. Though you want to take it easy on saturated fats, and get as little trans fats as possible. Refined sugars are your enemy, and you should have as little as possible. Aim to gain 1-2 lbs. per week. Invest in an accurate scale and weigh yourself once a day, same time every day, with as little clothing on as possible.

As for the brand of protein, I would ask the guys at vitamin world or GNC. The generic is cheapest and sufficient but you might want something a little higher end. I take 1 scoop/day of Probolic and I'm happy with taste, texture, and results. It's $32 for a 2 lb. bottle. About 28 servings

Isolate is the common right now. The one in the pic Optimum Nutrition is an isolate.

I've tried that and EAS 100% from costco (isolate as well) both taste great and don't cause bad gas. I got years worth really cheap $30 a piece for 5 lbs. cheapest you will get is online at 1fast400.com or bodybuilding.com.

I only take 1 scoop right after workouts and often times add Oats, Dextrose, peanut butter for extra calories which makes it a good weight weight gainer.

GNC is NOT cheap compared to even the local shops in your area.

Look at the link: http://www.1fast400.com/?products_id=62
these guys are selling ON for $37 (5 lbs) which is considered an average brand in the bodybuilding world. don't even get me started on GNC's vitamins. In general stay the fuck away from commission driven companies like GNC.

Anyways buy you shit online even with shipping it's way cheaper and you can find almost anything
supplementscanada for canadians
myprotein.co.uk for UKfags
bodybuilding.com for US and canada.

x2. I buy mine from A1Supplements.com and usually stick to Cytogainer, mainly because it's the best tasting that I've had. A 6lb tub runs me around $45 and lasts me a month and a half (I only have it after workouts).

Your friend needs to be worrying about eating FOOD, not supplements. Tell him to eat everything in sight and lift hard.

Did they discontinue the 5lb bag cus I went to my local Costco and they aboslutely don't carry it anymore. I had to goto GNC( overpriced mofos) to buy a case of the EAS Box of 42G bags of protein poweder which cost about 44 bucks and it's much more expensive than the EAS bag at costco that cost around 26 dollars plus tax of course.

Can you buy them online , do you know a place?

I've seen the 6 LB bags at Costco which says 100% Whey which is the good kind. they also make a less "pure" kind which is a blend of other protein stuff.
>PROTIP: Whey prices have skyrocketed because all of a worldwide price increase of milk, most of you probably know that.

Price of Whey protein was upped few months ago, now it's going upwards to $50 (5 lbs) with new packaging and everything to make it more acceptable. I don't think they will come down, ever.

this was the only lowest price that i could come up with

but eat as clean as possible

1 gram per lb of GOAL BODYWEIGHT has been working fine for me

And try to spread your protein intake throughout the day so that your body can absorb it all effectively
