/fit/ this shit is starting to confuse me

I'm considered morbidly obese, have been obese for almost all my life. I'm 6'2 and last time I was on a working scale it hit 560. When I got into my teens I exercised on and off but nothing regular, and I did the same with dieting.

Well for the first time I was able to consistently jog 25-30 minutes every day last week save for the weekends. I've continued it to this week. I've had some swelling in my feet and sore legs, but nothing so bad as to hinder me.

I've also cut down on the amount of food I have eaten. I used to get fast food all the time, but stopped that last month. I drink nothing but water and harder alcohol when I'm down. I avoid beer completely.

The problem is I've started researching huge fucking fat asses like me losing weight, and it's not encouraging. Most of what I read is saying what I am doing is wrong and that I should start slow. But it's not like I don't move, I walk on campus from class to class every day. I'm not immobile and never have been.

It's also saying a lot of huge people only lose the weight after surgery, and that's fucking terrifying that I would have to do such a thing.

I'm just trying to find out the truth about this shit. I've been to a doctor and save for some concern about the swelling he thinks I'll be fine, but he admittedly hasn't had to handle someone as fat as me losing weight.

So what's the truth /fit/, should I just keep doing what I'm doing or rethink everything?
>> .
If you lose a significant amount of weight, and don't want pounds and pounds of stretched skin hanging everywhere you'll have to get surgery.

If you're doing something to cause major swelling, don't do that. Low impact cardio, lift some weights (LOL SQUATZ), take in less calories than you burn.

Hey listen fat mother fucker.

Lose some weight.

Listen mother fucker, it's me again.

Now, say you run/jog/walk 1 hour a day.

You do that 5 times a week, for the rest of the year.

You will lose, 100-200 pounds, it's practically fucking guaranteed.

Now do it faggot, and get the fuck outta my face.

For a fucking huge guy like yourself, take it slow and gradually build up your workouts. Since you're so big there is going to be a lot of pressure on your legs since you have barely worked out before. Too much stress will really kill you later on as you get older especially on the knees. Your focus should be your diet. No junk food, really sweet stuff, fatty shits. Also do not rush since you will end up with sacs of saggy skin which is really putrid. You are going to get it regardless for your predicament but you will lessen it by taking it slow.

Is there absolutely no way to tone away what will become the stretched fatty skin as I go along? I'm willing to do anything short of surgery, because unlike a lot of people I'm really, really tired of being fat and want it off as soon as I can.

I AM VERY HAPPY THAT ANOTHER FAT PERSON IS TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR HEALTH. You sound like a reasonable person, and it sounds like you will have success.
>Well for the first time I was able to consistently jog 25-30 minutes every day last week save for the weekends. I've continued it to this week. I've had some swelling in my feet and sore legs, but nothing so bad as to hinder me.
Good work. I think your doctor is right.
>I've also cut down on the amount of food I have eaten.
You shouldn't cut out too much to start. It's going to be a gradual decrease as you lose weight. If you make it too drastic it will be like starving yourself to your body. Right now since your body is so much bigger it requires more calories to sustain itself. I'll give you a link: http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/ Also the MORE IMPORTANT thing to do is to eat HEALTHY (nutrition).

Then they are probably wrong and it hurts their ego to think that someone else who is fat yet wasn't sedentary is able to start better than them. I could be completely wrong on this, so do more research.
>should I just keep doing what I'm doing or rethink everything?
Keep going, and learn more. Rethink as you go. You will not be doing the same shit you do when you start five years from now.

Patient ... imagine being 200 pounds 1 year from now.

You want to?

Then do what I suggested...

Now, say you run/jog/walk 1 hour a day.

You do that 5 times a week, for the rest of the year.

I'm realistic, and I imagine that it will take a year. Probably more. But I don't want it to take forever. I don't want it gone immediately either, because that won't happen. I'd actually rather work hard for it. Kind of make up for years of being a sloth and gluttonous motherfucker.

And I'm jogging every day. I'm not going to stop or anything.

The stretched skin is the only troubling part of it all. I don't want to look like the Pale Man when I'm done.

I'm glad someone is posting this while I'm not on. Sometimes I feel like the only one that knows about it. You normally want to eat 500 Cal less than what you find from that link to lose weight. Any fewer calories and you'll be starving your body. If you really are the size and weight you say use this as a benchmark, you may need to adjust calories as you see fit.

REMEMBER!!!!

A balanced diet is easy to maintain. You want your calories to come from 20%-30% fat (yes, you want to eat fat. polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, and omega 3 are the best. NO TRANS FATS EVER), 20% protein (you can probably cut this back to around 10%. I do 20% due to lifting), and the rest from carbs.

EASY WAY TO FIGURE THIS:

1g of:
fat =9 Cal
protein = 4 Cal
carbs = 4 Cal

I eat 3000 Cal a day. So with my percentages (20%-30% fat, 20% protein, rest is carbs) I would eat around 60-110 Cal from fat, 600 Cal from protein, then the rest obviously comes from carbs since theres nothing left.

TIPS:
You want to eat lots of lean chicken, turkey, FIBER, fruits, and veggies if you like.
Switch to wheat or whole grain bread.
Start taking multivitamins and calcium.

I hope this helps.

There's surgery you can get for it. I'd also imagine it will get less noticeable over time.

Diet will get you farther than anything else.

But combos will be max winningest.

Resistance training will raise resting metabolic rate--meaning you use more calories resting.
Cardio-style exercises will increase expended calories during that time period.

Suggestion: Take it easy on your heart, you're a big mofo. Take it easy on your joints, you're a big mofo. Do progressively harder resistance training; concentrate on bigger muscles; concentrate on "bang for time spent at gym", i.e. bi-cep curls are the lose AND squats (even body weight, especially for you, you fat mofo) are the win. Do low-impact cardio.

Continue to walk. Get away from carbs. Fats (30% of dietary calories) raise testosterone levels. Fiber is goodly. Protein makes you feel full, and is expensive, and is expensive for your body to process relative to fat and carbs.

For max win: www.precisionnutrition.com for dieting advice. For even maxer win: Lyle McDonald, but you wont need his advice for awhile, read his articles though.

You'll probably end up with stretch marks, unless you make this into some sort of multi-year project. Perhaps look at some sort of skin tightener--who knows?

Fit has plenty of liars, braggers, and anorexics. Stay on your own track. It's not a matter of looking skinny and superkwaii but being healthy. With that mindset, it's easier to lose weight (without killing yourself, anyway.)

Keep up with the running, and start keeping a calorie log book, where you write down everything you eat. Limit your eating to 1400-1500 calories if you are male, and 1200-1300 calories if you are girl. If you eat more one day, eat less the next. If that sounds tough and you still want to snack, google "negative calorie foods." Yes, they exist ^_^! And they make awesome snacks.

Also, you can make yourself some no-calorie fruit teas to spice up all that boring water (I like Celestial Seasonings, but there are plenty of other companies.)

Hope this helps.

just make sure you don't injure your feet/legs
you might need to do less weight bearing things like biking

Thanks for the advice so far. I have a weight loss log book of sorts, but with the BMR stuff, and the nutrition and Lyle McDonald sites, that will help with more accurate allocations of my weight loss.

I've been pretty cautious about my legs, back and feet. If it every hurts worse than it does now I'll take a day or so to mend it, but it hasn't gotten really bad yet.

Don't listen to this fuckwad. You need to base your diet on your own daily needs. Use the websites given in other posts and figure it out.

QFT... but...

That's not healthy if you are ridiculously overweight. You need to base it on your BMR. That is really really not healthy to do. DO NOT listen to that guy. Read more and figure it out for yourself and you will find out that I'm correct.

Yeah, I sort of figured that out. I'm basing my calorie intake on my BMR.

Holy shit I can't believe there's people in this thread encouraging the OP to run. He weighs FIVE HUNDRED AND SIXTY POUNDS FOR FUCKS SAKE. Do you have ANY IDEA HOW MUCH FORCE THAT IS ON HIS KNEES?! JESUS FUCK

OP, it's awesome that you're trying to lose weight. The most important thing to remember is that if you stay committed you WILL achieve your goals. But for the love of all that is holy DO NOT run. Stick to biking or swimming.

People should get in shape to run, not run to get in shape.

man you really should do some strength training
at your weight you should get a 300/400/500 bench/squat/deadlift really fast
and you'll probably keep most of that strength even when you've gotten to a normal weight
>> Anonymous
OP, good luck.

I quite a bit overweight myself.. not quite as far gone as you, but far enough gone that my life isn't quite as full as I could hope for.

I started exercising and working out about a month ago. I really enjoy it to be honest. The days i don't go to them it's all i think about. and the days i do go to the gym, i wonder if i can make it back a second time.

I've completely changed my life style, especially as far as eating habits go. I haven't had sugar in ages. I buy whole wheat bread, drink lots of water or water with the green tea or white tea packets to go mixed in. i do have the occasional coke zero. no fast food at all, no fried foods. lots of fruit, veggies and i even bought a blender.

i've only lost 8 pounds in the last month (was hoping for more but thats all the scale at the gym gave me)...but i can't seem to tell/feel any difference in my body.

i'm sure i have probably gained -some- muscle but Its probably not a whole lot.

Point is: you're not alone here. keep up the hard work man.

>>396735

>i've only lost 8 pounds in the last month

You're actually at a good pace. You should lose 1-2 lbs. per week so 8 lbs. per month is at the high end of what you should be working towards. Good job, keep it up.

if you start having more trouble with the swelling in your legs and feet, swim.

All of these suggestions are great. Hate to say it, but the only way to lose weight is eat right and be active. Also, cut down on your meat intake, and focus more on sea food and dairy like yogurt and (small servings) of cheese. soy milk (try silk, its yummy yums and has more nutrients and less calories than normal milk. tastes better too) is also good for replacing normal milk. consider trying a pescatarian diet! its really, really good for you. look it up.

anyway, patience is the key. you didnt gain all this weight in a few weeks, just like you wont lose it in a few weeks. good luck and i wish you all the best. it is possible, and you can do it.
