Hey, /fit/.

What do you know about stretching? My hamstrings are so un-stretched that I can't even straighten my leg. How long do you think it would take to overcome that?

Some people talk about dynamic stretching, which basically amounts to doing bodyweight lunges as far as hamstrings are concerned, but I'd say you warm up with them and then either do the pictured stretch or just sit on the floor and relax your legs into straightness. Remember to keep you back arched! That'll give your hammies a little more stretchage.

Of course I can stand up. They just don't go straight like other people's legs. It's kind of driving me nuts, though it's not a big problem, functionally. Though I suppose my legs could be messing up my posture.

I'm really just wondering if anyone else here has gotten over extreme flexibility, and how long it took before they could look in the mirror and honestly say, "I am not a freak." 'Cause I'm impatient.

Tee hee.

Believe it or not, if you're impatient about it, do squats. Start with bodyweight and go as low as you can for a few reps, then add weight, do a few more reps, add weight, etc. By the time I hit my normal rep weight, I'm as limber as a cat. The weight helps breech barriers of inflexibility.

HOWEVER, you MUST keep proper form or else you're both not stretching your hammies and you're hurting yourself. Keep that back arched and that ass out!

Hmm, now that you mention it, squats do seem to help. I'm still not getting the range of motion they quoted in the brochure though.

Even at full weight? When I first start my squat routine, I have trouble even reaching full depth, but a warm up set or two later and with 120lbs (I know, pussy much) on my shoulders, getting past parallel is no problem.

Depth is easy. I can do full depth with no weight at all, since my knees are bent. But with straight knee (or as straight as it goes, rather) I can't lift my leg as far as I should be able to. Nor can I actually straighten my leg, at any time. It's possible that the latter part is bone structure, but I'm blaming the hamstring for now since I know it's underperforming in other areas.
