So I was at the batting cages today and I swung too hard like the beast that I am, and I felt a deliciously sharp pain just beneath my bottom rib on the left side. I can't tell if it's an abdominal strain or an abdominal tear. All I know is that it's 5 hours later and it hurts like a bitch every time I take in a breath, and I can't pick anything heavy up using my arms or it feels like a knife stabbing me.

Which of you doggies has had an ab tear before? Or an ab strain? How long do they take to heal?

Muscle strains suck in general. I strained my back awhile ago and it hurt like *hell* for the first two days without even moving. It literally felt like continuous gunshots in my back. "Background" pain took a week to go away, and pain associated with movement took at least another 10 days after that. I was on a muscle relaxer and Vicodin, so I'm not sure if the muscle relaxer shortened the healing time at all.

I strained my upper abs once, it took like 3 days before the pain started to subside. You really need to do RICE, the first 48 hours are crucial in healing a strain quickly. Also, get some Ranger Candy, Vitamin i, ie 800 mg ibuprofen.

The question is, how do you rest a muscle you must constantly use? Unless I barely breathe, it's moving.
