Get ready to be really slow in the water. Lifting is a pretty minor part of a good swimming routine. Maybe cross train with some running and rowing?

Seriously, just join a pool and drill the fuck out of your strokes.

the pool is my problem, i am looking for an indoor one but the nearest one is about an hour away.

the local gym does not have a rowing machine, but cross training sounds good.

Do pull ups. Seriously. Not the bitch chin ups, but pull ups.

My club swim coach made me do them religiously. The first time he told me to do it, I had done 50 "chin ups" not 50 pull ups. So I ended up doing those first 50 chin ups, and another 100 pull ups.

The pull up strengthens about every upperbody muscle you'll need for swimming. Do a bunch of cardio. Do SQUATZ, SQUATZ jumps, and wall sits to strengthen your legs for the kick and push off the wall.

WORK YOUR CORE. As much as you don't think it is, having a solid core is as important as any other part.

Depending on your team, you might be training fuck-all early in the morning and leave the pool a quivering mass. A half-hour drive isn't all that bad.

The right running routine will help w/ general endurance, but something that engages your core and upper body more would be better. Front crawl is almost all in your lats, shoulders, etc. SQUATZ will only get you so far, since huge quads are a drag for most of the strokes, but it will be using your core at least.

Sit ups. Crunches. Reverse crunches. Dead bugs. Planks. Push ups. 6 inches. Flutter kicks. Any variation of the sit up.

I don't mean bulk up your legs... Try doing a small amount of weight a ton of times. You need more definition than bulk. SQUATZ jumps are pretty effect. I've got some pretty powerful quads, but not not bulky. My underwaters were the best part about my swimming. My turns and push offs were better than some people at the state level.

Oh, and OP... WORK ON YOUR FLEXIBILITY. The more flexible you are, the better. A lot of professional swimmers are mildly double jointed in their knees, allowing for a larger range of motion during underwater dolphin kicks.

Not OP, but what is the distinction you're making between pull-ups and chin-ups? Overhand versus underhand?

Op here again, not so sound too much like an as hat can you provide links for dead bugs and planks, as google has failed me and directed me to wood and Raid.

should I start with no weight, and do deep squatz one leg at a time?

thank you for reminding me off the dolphin kicks, any recommended stretches?

sorry for being a complete fucking noob and asking so many questions

Pull ups work every upper body muscle for swimming.

Chin ups work almost 0 upper body muscles for swimming. They are the bitch version in swimming terms.

Dead bugs are uhh... Lay on your back, holding the six inches position with one leg at 6 inches, and the other leg as far up as you can bring it in almost a pike type deal...

Sort of like a paused, over exaggerated flutter kick.

What to do with your arms: If your right leg is down in 6 inches, you're going to do your left arm in an obtuse angle. You should always be opposite.

If your left arm is down, your right leg needs to be up. It's kind of hard to explain, but just do like 30 of those, slowly, with a 2 second pause in between each one... and you'll get a decent core ASAP

OP here, thanks for the info
