Why do you guys work out? For aesthetics right? Isn't that kind of shallow? Either way if you're ugly and/or shy, women wont like you even with the biggest muscles.

Here's a question: If you worked out every day and really improved and you could lift a lot more weight than you used to but you couldn't see your body looking better, would you still work out?

I'm working out so I'm not turn into a sweating sack of shit as I walk down the road on a hot summer's day.

Or so I don't walk around in the winter in just a tshirt because any mroe layers would turn me into... a sweating sack of shit.

When I'm getting laid (it happens) I'd rather not be... a sweating sack of shit.

I hate idiots who think doing anything to your appearance is shallow. You are all really ugly faggots who are butthurt that you are ugly and not visually appealing.

You can go off and be 250 pounds and have a gut, and claim women should like you for who you are. And you can lower your standards to fucking "natural" (read: chubby, out of shape, pale, acne, no make up, ugly). Noone cares. Go fucking die.

sedentary life is not appealing or healthy in any manner. physical activity shows vitality, health and thus it "looks good" because being pale and thin gives off a dead/sick feeling.

>Also, of all the things you can do for your appearance, working out is THE most challenging and rewarding way.

My point exactly. You're trying REALLY hard to make people like you because you think that's what all people like is just looks. Being well groomed and well dressed is what everybody can do but if you workout it's like you're trying to prove something and it shows more weakness than strength.

Also, I DID train for a few months and thought it was a lot of work and I couldn't find a reason to give myself besides aesthetics and that's a stupid reason to work out. I thought that there has to be a reason other guys are so into it besides looks.

Take 2 ugly guys. One trains for aesthetics. The other one just forks out on superficial items. If you take that bullshit away from the second ugly guy, you are left with nothing, whereas the guy who works out will always have his body and physical strength. Reliance on possessions is a million times more pretentious than reliance on a good body.

Also, if you have worked out in the past and didn't feel any better from it, you were doing it wrong on an epic scale.

By improving your looks, NO MATTER HOW, you are trying to make people like you, so your points are all irrelevant and you are stupid.

I find that people who train are much more humble and down to earth than others, as there isn't much that is more humbling than 300lbs pressing down on you that you are unable to lift.

And working hard in the gym is a GOOD thing you lazy cunt, it doesn't mean you are trying hard to impress. Going to the gym to train for aesthetics alone will get you nowhere aesthetically, because you will be lacking the mental fortitude to follow through. Your failure at the gym is a perfect example of this weak mindset. People who have built good bodies were almost always training with more than aesthetics in mind, even if that was their main objective.
>> Anonymous
>>102271
That's the problem right there. The problem is you think people are always comparing themselves to someone else when they work out. It's not always the case.

>Your failure at the gym is a perfect example of this weak mindset.

Trying to improve yourself to look better does not make you look nervous. Now if your over weight (not enough to repulse women) and you cant get a girl that means that youve got not skill with women, and working out and becoming muscular is not going to change that. But working out for self enjoyment, to challenge and better yourself is never a bad thing. No you just destroyed all your points by saying that you are trying to improve your looks. The bottom line is that you're trying, which means you are letting it affect you. How hard you work has no correlation with the how much it affects you.

You think that if someone can bench 200lbs more than someone else, the former is more affected by society than the latter? You're fucking stupid - most people lift weights because lifting a heavy weight you have been training for is an accomplishment, whereas putting on hair gel in the morning isn't.

look man i think i have strong moral character, and im a goal oriented person. so when i achieve something like getting my bench max 10 pounds higher at the gym, or getting a raise at work, or bringing my girlfriend a gift for no reason just to make her happy then that makes me happy. And being well muscled also makes my girlfriend happier, and there for me happier too... so i cant see how liking to workout to better myself makes me a bad person.

The truth is having a good character has close to ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with looks. There isn't some sort of graph that equates looking bad to having a good character. Do you seriously think that a person that takes great care for their appearance is any less substantial than a basement-dwelling gamer who doesn't give a shit?

>>102385

No I never said that character and looks have anything to do with each other.
>> anonymous
nope there are plenty of basement gamers that are ass holes just like there are pleanty of fat ass holes and plents of skinny ass holes, and plenty of week ass holes, and plenty of strong ass holes, and plenty of ass holes that go to the gym. So that should prove that all types of people have bad morals and that just being weak does not qualify as a morally strong person just like going to the gym does not qualify you as a morally weak person...
>> Anonymous

This post states otherwise.>>102363
>> Anonymous
I go the gym for aesthetics mainly but I don't give a shit if most people like me since they're wastes of time themselves.
>> anonymous
look i like trying to look good for other people because then they like to be around me because i dont look like a slob. its called looking presentable. And most people appreciate it when there boy friends put on a polo shirt instead of a t shirt or their girl friend puts on make up instead of just going out without it. I go to the gym for the same reason to look good and better myself. What is bad about that.
>> Anonymous
lol most people who say they don't care about their appearance are liars, and those who really don't are lonely fags. if you're already trying to look good, why not try look as good as you can? i'd rather people like me than be repulsed/indifferent to me. either way we're all going to die in the end, I might as well live happily.
>> Anonymous
>>102398
Exactly. And generally in most cultures, looking healthy is synonymous with looking good, so going to the gym is good for more than one reason no matter what your philosophy is. Trying to improve your looks by other means is just disguising laziness.
>> Anonymous
>>102368
So what? How is improving your body any different than wearing nicer clothes? How can you compare the two as if all aspects of aesthetics are the same? Putting on a polo will not give you a nicer body, and working out will not make your clothes look less shitty. I started out working purely for aesthetics because I was a skinny ass weak shit who looked like he was going to break in half. I could put on an expensive suit, get a $50 haircut, and drive a BMW and still look like shit. Wouldn't I have a weak character if I ignored my useless body and pretended it was all good by trying to compensate in other aesthetic areas instead of being able to admit to myself that I needed to change?
>> Anonymous
>>102411
By his logic it would mean you were trying hard, which is a bad thing according to him.
>> anonymous
yes you would have had bad character if you had not have admitted that you needed to change. but if you tried to look better by doing all the things you mentioned while still acknowledging that you needed to change then their is nothing wrong with doing those things. But ignoring the nescesity to change is bad... I used to be a fat ass now im not and i can tell you it has made me more confident, and affected my way of thinking. When i was a fat ass i used to dress like a slob because i didnt care what people thought of me. then i affected a change in my lifestyle and started to run and workout. I lost the weight, built the muscle, and still dressed badly. Then i decided to start making a conscious effort to dress nicer because it made me feel better about myself, and i found that other people appreciated my effort to look better and liked me more when i was well dressed and well groomed. This is a natural thing, people appreciate it when you make a conscious effort to look better. How does that make me have a bad character.
>> Anonymous
IMO it would be bad character to spend money on cosmetics as an excuse not to work hard for aesthetics.
>> Anonymous
People with "bad characters" are usually the honest ones.
>> anonymous
no one on here said that. i said it would be bad to try and look good without wanting to correct the real problem by trying to mask it with expensive clothes. I.E. fat but well dressed and not trying to lose weight. But if you make an effort to look nice and lose weight then that is great! But if your fat well dressed and happy then keep being fat well dressed and happy.

absolutely not
>> Anonymous
>>102445
why would they?
>> Anonymous
OP's question is a joke and all his little statements about character are ridiculous.

If someone looks like shit and wants to work out to get a nicer body that shows strong character because he/she is actually recognizing his/her problem which is having a shitty physique and doing something about it. HOW DOES THAT SHOW WEAK CHARACTER?
>> Anonymous
As superficial as it is, I would not workout if I didn't feel more confident and have a better looking body as a result.

All I would do is some cardio every week if I wasn't able to gain muscle. Working out would be a waste of time if I didn't get the benefits of looking better.
>> Anonymous
Well, I diet and work out to look better. If I'm not dieting, I try to work out so I at least don't gain anything.

Right now I'm trying to lose weight, and I fucking hate dieting. I swear that once I lose what I need to, I'm loading up on unhealthy, delicious food and just working out to retain the same weight. Goddamn I hate dieting. Fuck all you nay sayers, you know that dieting sucks and you wouldn't do it for any reason but to look better. 95 percent of "healthy" food fucking blows and you're a goddamn fucking liar if you say otherwise.

OP Here. Like many others, you misunderstood me.

What I said is bad is skinny or average people getting buff for the sole reason of looking better so people will give them respect/like them more. My opinion is that working out for guys is not necessary unless you're overweight and most people just do it so they can live up to the male ideal that society sets which shows that they can't look beyond that.

It's a lot of hard work just for one to feel safe that no one can insult their looks. It's like a way for them to know that they're better than the average person by doing something that anyone can do but most just don't feel like it.

I hope you can understand what I mean.

Yes, I'd still work out, considering the fact that I have a heart condition that puts my blood pressure really high even with diet and exercise. If didn't work out, I'd have a heart attack by the time I'm 30.

Hey troll, i'm sorry, op, you say that working out is hard work. Well, no shit. EVERYTHING in life is hard work. What's that? You want to get in the university? Then study like 5 hours a day. You want to get a promotion? You will work overtime for 2 months and MAYBE it will be considered. You want to learn to play the guitar? Enjoy your 5 years of getting callusses. You want a fit body?

There you go. If you dismiss everything in life as hard work then you are probably a stoner fuck and need to gtfo.

Lifting weights makes me look feel and be better/stronger.
I'm a colossus of testosterone, muscles and body/facial hair - you can call me wolverine.
Everyone starts working out aiming for visual improvement but later you'll realize how much can you learn about your body, while experimenting with your workout routine and *feeding habits*.

I have practically zero chance of getting girls, and I still work out. And yes, I feel good about my looks, but more over my personal comfort.

I've been fat enough to have fat oozing over my jeans when I sit down, and it sucks. Now I sit down and there's nothing there to gush over, even in tight jeans. I feel comfortable and relaxed all the time, and that's great, even if it isn't attracting girls.

>>102607
What about people who do it so that they can better respect themselves? People who work out NOT so that they can be better than others, but simply better than they themselves used to be?

The greatest feeling you can get in a gym or the most satisfying feeling you can get in the gym is the pump. Let's say you train your biceps, blood is rushing in to your muscles and that's what we call the pump. Your muscles get a really tight feeling like your skin is going to explode any minute and its really tight and its like someone is blowing air into your muscle and it just blows up and it feels different, it feels fantastic. It's as satisfying to me as cumming is, you know, as in having sex with a woman and cumming. So can you believe how much I am in heaven? I am like getting the feeling of cumming in the gym, I'm getting the feeling of cumming at home, I'm getting the feeling of cumming backstage, when I pump up, when I pose out in front of 5,000 people I get the same feeling, so I am cumming day and night. Its terrific, right? So I am in heaven.

I actually started working out because I had nothing to do. Someone here brought a weight set, and I started with them because I "might as well" plus I got to socialize a bit more.

I do it for aesthetics, strength, and health. Also because it's something to do. I do it for everything, really.

I go to a school in a very small town, with no homework or tests, and I hate the classes that I have.

I'm improving myself. And that makes me happy. And more confident. Even though I'm plenty confident. I was happy with my body and everything else before I started working out. Now I'm more happy. Now I'm more *healthy*.

And to answer OPs question: Yes. Yes I would. Because it feels good to be healthy. And feeling good leads to being happy, and confident, which make you more attractive.

In general I find people who excercise nicer and more social, probably due to the self confidence they have.
I know I excercise to see how far I can push my body. I look pretty decent (had plenty of people come up to me at bars, streets etc), I still have no friends ;_;

Believe it or not, working out won't change an ugly face or poor social skills. Shocking, isn't it?
>> Anonymous
>>102868
It depends on what made the face ugly in the first place. If it was a lack of chiseled chin and a piggish appearance due to excess fat then the ugliness will melt away. Working out can change social skills in one dramatic way - allowing the person whose life has changed the self-confidence to explore their natural ability of socializing. Neglected for however long they will be rusty at first, of course, but as with everything we learn what our friends expect by both subtle and not so subtle clues. Especially if that person starts hanging around new people, that person can be different without startling the expectations of the strangers and make new friends. With older friends that same person could feel stuck in a mould and stuck fulfilling the expected social reject form that his friends have come to rely upon for whatever reason.

Good bodies and working out are hugely important, it shows good personality too.

I work out for my girlfirend of 3 years. I want her to be happy. I also expect her to stay in shape for me, so if I expect that out of her, then I should also put effort into staying in shape for her.

I dont think that's very shallow.
