Will walking help me loose weight instead of jogging/cardio... and if so how long will it take to loose about 30 pounds? My knees are screwed from a old skiing accident, so I've been taking long walks each day for about 4 months/eating better.

My pedometer says I'm taking around 20 000 steps a day, which is double the daily recommended...

Walking will help you lose weight but you'll need to do a LOT of walking. You also need to be mindful of your eating habits, and make positive changes to them. Try investing in a bike, it's easier on your knees than running and you can perform HIIT on it. Ideally, you want to lose FAT instead of just WEIGHT, and fat doesn't just come right off. You have to coax it out of yourself, at the rate of 2-3 lbs. per week

Can you bike? Its less impact than jogging and better than walking.

The reason I walk is it's really easy to meld into my work/study schedule.

I don't have to change clothes, set aside a block of time etc.
