How can I motivate myself to run longer distances /fit/?

only try to advance your distance once a week by like 10-20% or so. make the rest of your runs training runs for that long distance. mix it up between rest, easy runs, and speedwork runs, but save the distance push for just that one time a week, and by god you'll be ready to attack that beast each time with renewed resolve and healthy drive.

enter a competitive race off 4-8 weeks in the future that you'll need to get up to distance for. if you are can 2 miles, sign up for a 5k (3.1 miles) if you can run 4 miles, sign up for a 5k (6.2 mi), if you already can do 6 miles, I think you should be able to handle a half marathon in 12-16 weeks.

Make an obligation, pay your entrance fee, and realize you can't back down now, and you will run further.

This is really sad but reading sports manga encouraged me to run more. Now I do about 6-8 miles a day.
