Ouch - Runner's nips Anonymous
So, I've been running for two months now. About a month in, my nips started getting sore; now, they're getting cut up and are becoming scabby. I read somewhere that it's something called "runner's nipple" in which the nipple gets irritated from friction, especially wet (with sweat) cotton. I happen to wear cotton t-shirts while running. Would wearing polyester t-shirts help this? I don't want to have to use petroleum jelly on em before running or anything.

Saw these recommended. Any comments, will they help this?

Put band-aids over your nips before running. Problem solved.

Exactly lol, if I were already fit, it wouldn't be a problem. I'm looking out for public welfare by leaving my shirt on.

Yeah, then go bare chested. I'm pretty sure it's not the fabric that matters, but the friction itself.
Or, you could always wax your chest. ::shudder::

Given you're fat, wear a sporta bra

Are your shirts really tight? How the fuck does this happen?

wear quality microfibres, like Nike dryfit.

Put glide on your nipples. It works really well and feels almost as good as bengay on your balls.

The shirt's movement causes friction on the very sensitive nipples, apparently it's fairly common.

That's the type of shirt I posted in OP. The dry-fit technology stuff. I guess I'll just pick one up and see if it helps.

Very reassuring.

You get this shit when you go surfing as well, except 100x worse. Saltwater + wax + shriveled, salty nipples = OH GOD SCABS

I use small band aids. I got them irratated to blood from time to time. It sucks and can be a major pain especially when the run is over and you can't stand your shirt.

CONGRATS, FOREST GUMP.

Put tape on them. Get some masking tape and remove some of the glue on some cloth or your clothes and cover your nipples in the tape.

They make circular band-aids that work quite well. Mine used to get very irritated under my hockey shoulderpads because the material on the inside was like fucking sandpaper. The little circular bandaids made it all better.

uh.. how about you wear a tight wife beater(tank top).. that's what i always run in. if it's tight enough there will be no movement and thus no friction. and of course there are no sleeves so you won't get too hot in them.

I was similar to you, overweight, running, hairy chest, wanted to be fit, but didn't want my lower gut jiggling for people to be mesmerized by. I ended up putting my old football shoulder pads and shirt on to run.

It didn't look stupid as people simply though I was "training" anyway. The extra weight on the shoulders did some good, it forced me to run more upright so my lower back stopped hurting after a run. My nipples where fine because the pads kinda held the shirt out off the chest.

Worked well for me at least, even though it's an unusual running suit it is not totally stupid or out of the ordinary to onlookers.

wear a beater or some form of tight clothes. i run in cotton 5 days a week, ahve been doing so for almsot a year now, and have never had troubles. however, i sweat an abnormally large amount, so maybe that greases them up a bit to prevent chafing.

I had this exact same problem. If you really don't want to use the quick/easy fix of putting vaseline in your tits, go to any sporting goods chain store and pick up one of those skin-tight running shirts from UnderArmor or whoever else.
