Hello /fit/

I am a first time poster...I usually lurk around gif and b...

Here are the stats.

I am 22.
I am 5'8
I weight 274 pounds (in b4 "lolfattie")
I don't eat really bad per'se...I just don't excersize, and I've gained about 15-20 pounds a year for the past several years.
I don't currently have a lot of motivation to lose weight.

I can't really afford a gym...at least not for another 3 or 4 months...

I hate being so fucking sluggish, I hate seeing pics of me with fucking bitchtits. I want to get this shit gone. I'd be happy to get down to 215-220...so...I want to lose around 50 pounds.
Comment too long. Clickhereto view the full text.

From a fatass here, used to be your size and am down to 250 ( still losing ).

Don't eat fast food.
When you crave junk, drink water.
Don't starve yourself .

Start out slow. Right now you ( and I, for that matter ) are too fat to run. Don't fuck up your knees trying to be the Flash. Take out an old ethernet chord and jump rope with it for 2 30 minute intervals a day ( one when you wake up, one at night ). Also, try to take frequent long walks.

Start small goals. Say you want to lose x amount of pounds in x amount of time. Be reasonably ( i.e don't say " I want to lose 100 pounds in 3 months ).

This is coming from a non-bodybuild or health fag, so I'm better you'll get better replies.

Just fucking do it? Self-motivation is the key to everyone's success. Everyone has a will of their own. You just ignore the knowledge of what you should do in favor of what you want to do.

Good advice rawhide...thanks.

If anyone else has any actual advice instead of "durr jes do it"...it's welcome and appreciated!

first time poster here, like yourself and Rawhide Im too big to run appropriately, so I've been walking at a brisk pace for 45 minutes at a time, twice a day, ive been at it just a fortnight.. but the progress has been good, I've also been eating basically as Rawhide suggests, I dont have a scale.. and am too cheap to buy one *Doh* But using a measuring tape ive been measuring my waist once a week, and been losing around 2cm weekly :) it might be slow, but im very happy with my progress, good luck OP!

Don't be an asshole. What I've said is the truth. You either actively pursue or you regretfully stagnate. There is no "doing" in your stagnant state, and what I've been saying has to do with your misconception of motivation. People everywhere motivate themselves to do things. Motivation is internal and something you must actively pursue along with the body you desire.

What I'm saying, dickhead, is that motivation isn't automatic and there is no magic recipe for having and keeping it. Just set some goals and go for them.

Another thing, I live in a country area pretty far from most of my mates, the ones near are too busy to come with for encouragement, though I know some of them *some also wouldnt...* would come if they could, anyway... it can be a downright pain in the arse to get up and go some mornings, ive found myself a few times having to struggle mentalling for 10-15 minutes before I can be bothered going for it, and ill admit once of twice I just havnt, its hard to keep yourself interested, but after the first week and a mate actually said I looked to have lost wait already *probably a lie to make me keep at it* but it worked, I was spured on.. after that it was pretty easy to keep going, third week has just started and im looking forward to it, just keep at it and you'll see results, even if it takes some willpower to keep at it.

good suggestions, I'm glad to see some smarties around here. just some extra info to help reinforce his point, OP, most activities use a mixture of carbohydrate and fat for fuel. at lower intensity exercises, we rely more on fat; on higher intensity, carbohydrates. thus, since I'm assuming that you're going for fat reduction, so long, low-intensity exercise, such as long walks, as he mentioned, are right up your alley. if you're motivated to start calculating calories, here's some basic advice: by most estimates, 3500 caloires intake will translate into about a pond of body weight. well, if you were to lose about a pound a week, that would equal a deficit of 500 calories a day. assuming that you had your intake and outtake balanced at 2000/a day, you could try that in different ways. one, you could simply cut out 500 calories from your intake. two, you could go do enough exercise to burn off that 500 calories. are either a good idea in the long run? no, cutting out a quarter of your food is basically skipping a meal, and that's not at all appealing to do for a long-term plan. and as for THAT much exercising, well that's a good hour or so of cardio, not everyone has THAT much extra time every day of the week. better plan? split the difference, such as cutting out two cans of soda (your average coke/pepsi has 150 calories, so that's 300 calories) and exercise for half an hour, which is much more doable, both for a beginning exerciser and for someone with a busy schedule, because you'll need to be doing this sort of thing for the forseeable future. anyways, my point is that you should take it slowly and pace yourself on your new habits if you're serious, you'll need to do this for a long while if you want to see results!

You may not be able to afford a gym right now but, you can do some gym quality exercises right now.

I love doing one leg squats, Just stand on one foot and slowly lower your self as far as you can (Don't fall over, You maybe not get very far now. I didn't when I started the exercise.) Then just lift yourself up. This works your legs and your balance.

Calf raises are another one, Find a step or some kind of ledge. Standing on the balls of your feet lower yourself and then lift yourself up. This BURNS your calfs and gluteus maximus. (ASS lol)

Push-ups, Fuck Yeah Push-Ups! There are alot of variations on the push-up. I like the gator-crawl, start in the push-up position and crank one out, Move your left hand and right feet and move forward. once you stop do another push-up, Continue. be sure to contract your abs for a pretty good added core effect.

Be sure to work on flexibility, simple stretching will help your body become more limber and make sure you can do more reps.

Also, make sure you hydrate, Water helps to flush your system out and can also help the "Sluggish" you mentioned. I started drinking water to help me kick a 3-4 rockstar a day habit and now I actually have longer energy and no crash.

I hope these exercises help you out!!

do you do much for warmups and cooldowns? I've found in my experience that a good warmup, which is nothing more than just 5-10 minutes of caisthenics and stretches, is a good way to mentally prepare, as well as get the rest of my body physically prepared as well. as long as it's easy enough to not actually deplete energy stores or cause fatigue, it'll work. even more importantly, i've found that cool-downs are even more important, on those days that I really pushed my limits, they've made a difference with reducing muscle soreness. as for what mine entail, I just do whatever I did for my major exercise at a lowerintensity, and more stretching. hope that helps!

>>54573
warm up/cooldown wise I generally do some quick stretches then start off at a slow pace before picking my speed up a bit, cooldown wise.. well, cough cough :P thanks for the tips

I didnt have any real motivation either, and although this cant really be taken as advice its how I got into it. There's this girl Im so taken with, but I never expected her to like me, well one day she was upset and I just kinda blurted it out, little did I know she actually DID like me, dispite my size.. well not only did it cheer her up, but it was a great feeling, from that feeling I started my first days working on my weight, the next day I just got up and repeated, I kept at it for a few days before I started to chill out a bit, and by that time I was seeing results, how ever minor they were.. so I decided to stick to it, still a long way to go but im going there.

good suggestions on the exercises, good sir, just a little add-on to his part on hydrating, relying on one's thirst mechanism usually isn't enough to keep you hydrated, here's some basic guidelines:
if one's sedentary and in a cool environment: 2-3liters/day
active and cool: 3-6
sedentary/warm: 3-5
active/warm: 5-10+, depending on how high the temp and how intense the exericse. I'm not kidding, I live in southern AZ!

>relying on one's thirst mechanism usually isn't enough to keep you hydrated

Yeah, because relying on your thirst mechanism which has evolved to be successful over countless millions of years MUST be inaccurate when it comes to signaling your body's hydration status.

OP Here...

Holy balls...some serious, helpful advice!

Thanks guys. I'm going to make a plan to get up a half hour earlier to do some pushups and stretches before I shower for work...I usually get up at 7:15...shower, grab a bite, pack a lunch and run off to work...and I'm sluggish until at least 10 or 11...I'm tired of that.

The shitty thing is, I love water...but the ONLY tap at work is in the washrooms, and I have a bad phobia about bathroom tap water. The killer? I have an ENDLESS free supply of pop...it's TERRILBE. Some days, I drink 3 or 4 cans. I fucking hate it...but sometimes I get so thirsty from working my ass off I need some liquids...

I might start shuttling several bottles of water from my house to work...a supply to last me a day...yeah, I'm going to do that!

Once again, fuck, thanks guys. Very helpful.

If anyone has any other advice, please share it.

hey, no worries,it's good to know that my health-nut ways can be of some help, at least.>>54582:very good point. everyone has different motivations, because different things are important to them. hell, I got into jogging simply because I'm a health-nut who like the spiritual/theraputic aspects, as well as bragging rights. I know that sounds lame, but it really is that simple. well that and I really love that feeling you get after a loooong run, you know when your legs feel like they're made out of spaghetti? it's one hell of a rush.

I maybe have one of those 25% of the time.

you're right, I should have specified; one's thirst mechanism isn't enough if you're seriously exercising-it'll hydrate, but not enough to support rigorous exercise, especially in a hot environment. one last thing: if the exercise is rigorous enough to be lasting well over one hour, consider hydrating with a sports drink, as you'll need the sodium and carbs to help with fluid and electrolyte balance, if it's under an hour, plain water is just fine.
>> Anonymous
One more thing before I barrelroll into the shower, distracting yourself is simple, and VERY efficient, if you have an i-pod you can listen to while you work away then great, use it, anything that takes your mind off the physical task at hand is good, assuming it doesnt stop you doing it
>> Anonymous
I want to get a treadmill and park it in front of my tv so I can watch dvd's and shit while I walk/jog.

A few years back I watched two episodes of the xfiles whilst briskly walking, partially jogging...I didnt really notice the burn at all until after I had stopped...heh.

Good advice in this thread so far.

Also, get over the water phobia. Srsly. All the germs and disgusting shit probably won't hurt you. Don't worry too much about being exact right now, just focus on being more active, eating leaner meats, eating MORE often (six meals a day ideally), and drinking more water, less sugar.

If you have access to a nutritionist through your insurance, it wouldn't hurt to go, but I'd still wait a bit. The reason I mention this, is most of your weight-loss struggle will be mental. Once you fix that part, the rest will come more or less easy.

BTW this is coming from a former fatass. 5'6" went from 225 to 175. Still need to drop to about 165. I fixed my mental game, and now the pounds more or less drop off by themselves through good research, great diet, and moderate to excessive exercise.
>> Anonymous
OP Once Again...

The phobia is very deep rooted.
Its like...I can notice a very distinct and specific "taste". I know that sounds crazy, but if you put two glasses beside each other, one with kitchen tap water and the other with bathroom tap water, I CAN tell the difference...

>>54607

Well then lrn to be less retarded about water.

Either that, or bring two gallons of water with you to work every morning.

why cant any of you faggots afford a gym membership? They are on average only 30 dollars a month.

If you stopped drinking soda, that would at least pay for your membership.

Hey guess what.

Some people have bills to pay.
>> Anonymous
>>54899
Doesn't change the fact that if you start drinking tap water you won't spend it on drinks that cost extra.

Some people would sacrifice 30 mother fucking dollars for a gym membership if they really gave a damn. You sir, it seems, do not give a damn.

Guess what, nigger: lines, assholes, hygiene, inconvenience of having to drive, atmosphere etc are all reasons to build your own home gym and in the long run it's worth it. WTF are you, a Bally's personal trainer?
>> Anonymous
>>54915
he is right. if your desire to change yourself isn't greater then your desire to stay the same, you won't do it. if you can scrounge up the money for a gym then chances are you can't scrounge up the money and space for a home gym of any worth. you're just butthurt you didn't get the magic pill answer to getting in shape.

>>54915
you have to be fucking kidding me. Op says he cant afford 30 dollars a month...and you are suggesting buying the equipment?

I mean, I agree about the hassle and health consequences of the gym, but seriously, you are stupid.

I'm not op lol. I have my own home gym. Just saying... a gym membership isn't all it's cracked up to be. i can self-motivate but for OP, i recommend 9mm aspirin.

>>54936
He said he can't afford it for like 3-4 months, at which point I imagine he'd have saved up for a years membership, which is enough to buy some decent shit off ebay or craigslist.

is the pissing contest over?
>> Anonymous
where the fuck are all you people going to the gym that you're waiting in line and getting lupus from standing inside the building? I've had memberships at 3-4 gyms and they've all been fine. i've never had people in my way to the point that i'd say it was a problem and i've certainly never gotten a disease from the gym nor do i seem to get sick anymore then when i'm not going to the gym as much
>> Anonymous
>>54941
no! 3-4 months is BULLSHIT. IT IS THIRTY DOLLARS. THAT IS A DOLLAR A DAY. THAT IS N O T H I N G.

OP needs to stop lying to himself and get motivated to cut some bullshit spending/activities/laziness out of his life and go routinely work out. Best way to stay motivated is to have a friend with the same goals to workout with.

OP Here once again.

The reason I don't really want to bother with a gym yet, is because I am very uneducated with the machinery and various types of workouts.

The reason I posted in here is because I was looking for some "tips" for starting out at home.

Also, as I said before, the soda I get at work is free, so it's very hard to resist at times.

But today, I had an apple juice and an orange juice.

aaanyways...I think I've tapped this well as much as I can expect to. Thanks to those who were helpful.
