Yes, it's an ulcer. You can tell because its on the inside. A cold sore presents on the outside of the lip. And for>>127366: A cold sore (which that isn't) [i]is caused by the Herpes Simplex virus[/i], so you fail twice.
There are various treatments available. Personally I enjoy the kind of pain you get by rubbing salt in it, though this is counterintuitively beneficial, it's probably more in your best interests to get a topical (you put it on the affected area) gel, such as Bonjela (rubbish - I'm sure it makes matters worse), or a paraffin wax based ooze such as.. oh god, what is it.. Ah, "Adcortyl in Orabase", which is basically a corticosteroid in a paraffin wax base - a tiny dab of this seals the ulcer to allow it to heal. It's pretty cheap and it works like a charm. Doesn't require a prescription here (uk), nor in the US afaik.
