I do. I practice Boxing and Goju-Ryu Karate.
It's fun, but it can be rigorous on the body in the beginning. Then again, any exercise plan is like that.
Learn the basics first(straight punch/cross, hook, uppercut, jab), THEN learn how to string together combinations. Many people learn the basics at a mediocre level, then move on to learning combination strings. Needless to say, those combos are mediocre too. Pace yourself and take one or two days to relax.
P.S.: I train and live in NYC. Specifically, I train in a 'ghetto gym'(it's in upper manhattan). Some of the guys there are former gang members, but most of them are just inner city teens/young adults who just want to become better in the sport and/or increase their fitness capabilities. The former gang members won't start anything with you and, to be completely honest, everyone in my gym is pretty passive. They come to the gym to improve their mentality, stamina and hand-eye coordination; they don't come to start nonsense. Stop trying to increase stereotypical nonsense.
Also, if you showboat, you won't get any flack from anyone in my gym. One kid tried showboating in the ring against someone and his opponent just checked his jaw with a few jabs when he was SEVERELY open. His opponent could've pounded his fucking brains out, but he opted not to. The checked-jabs just made the showboating character stop fooling around and get serious about learning.
