I ran winter off seasons, but only 3-4 days of the week. Did track, and did summer off-season after that. Over the summer, I would only run 3-4 days a week and not even 5 miles a day, but I also did the stronglifts 5x5. I didn't gain pretty much bulkwise, but I did get a fair amount stronger, and when this CC season started, I was already doing a 5k under 20 at less than race pace. I ended with a PR at 17:48
I think, to and extent, they can be compatible, but there will probably come a point where it will either be lifting or running that will predominate.
