it lowers your metabolism, and you'll lose a lot of muscle mass, which also decreases metabolism. so your maintenance will be much lower then 1800-2000. when you've lost muscle mass, you're not going to gain it back without eating over maintenance.
that said, do it. i think if you think starvation is a good way to lose weight, fucking do it. once you're skinny but look like shit with your clothes off because theres no muscle under the fat you've got left, maybe you'll see why its not a good idea.
