Skinny swimmer bulking up Anonymous
Hi guys, was wondering if you could help me.
I weigh 62kg and am 6ft
I swim competitively and also have a very high metabolism - I can eat 3 huge meals a day and put on nothing.

I want to build up body mass and increase strength for swimming.
Has anyone any ideas on how I can do this given my body type?

Thanks

Split your meals so you more or less eat constantly - 5 or 6 medium sized meals a day whenever you're feeling 'not full'. Do some lifting after your cardio to put on weight.

Trust me, you will outswim any bodybuilder than you throw in a pool.

The best way to develop muscles that are good for swimming is...gasp...swimming.

Bulking up will most likely hurt your swim times.

Most chicks like the swimmer body type.

I am skinnier than the average swimmer type, and low muscular strength is my downfall. My technique is pretty much to a tee (sp?) and it's strength that's letting me down.

How should I go about increasing strength and build with my body type?

Just join your local gym and work on the muscle groups you want to develop, whether for competitive swimming or bulking up. Do more weight training until it aches and start increasing your protein consumption. Unlike people who try loose weight, I dont think you need to worry too much about your dietary needs. If you're really looking to gain mass, your increased demands of energy exertion should naturally change your eating habits at a more comfortable rate.
