I had to run something around 3 miles a day in wrestling, and continued to hate it both years I wrestled. I was an ok runner (6 minute mile), and didn't really feel any pain beyond my lungs (breathed correctly too, it was just too cold).
I do like biking though, it's just so much more efficient, and I get to rest a little more. I think it burns more calories per minute, too. Either way, look what it did to my legs lol.
