So I started stronglifts 5x5 today. I started light and man do I feel like a little bitch. I've been lifting for about 5 months on my own where I was probably overtraining doing squats, bench, overhead, deadlift, dips, pullups, shrugs, and curls all in one day. I decided I wanted a some structure and a program that is proven and stronglifts looks like it's it. But I started really light (65lb squat, 65lb barbell row, 65lb bench press) and it seems too easy. Should I go back to near what I was working with, add 20lbs the next workout, or do the recommended 5 or 10?

If you aren't grunting, you aren't lifting enough...
BUT only lift what you can rep for the 5x5
experiment to find your rep weight, then increase 5lbs every workout or 10lbs if its too easy for you. At some point you will stall, just keep doing it! Good luck anon and happy lifting

How long should you rest for between sets if you're doing 5x5?

About a minute.

just do the 5-10lbs. you will be back up 20 in 2-4 workouts anyway

Depends on how good your technique is. I rushed it and jumped up 10-15lbs every time at the start and had to drop back when I developed lower back pain and popped something in my sternum on dips. You're not on a deadline to be superman so just take it easy and enjoy this time where it feels easy - soon enough it won't.

He meant 2x3 I think.

add about 150 so you can be a man.

The point of 5x5 is only being able to do 5 reps, if you can do more the weight is too low.

what is your weight and height? body fat as well. If you are somewhat strong then you should go for 200 in squat and bench to start off with at least.
>> Anonymous
it's better to start too low than it is to start to high

no, take as much rest as you need to, if that's 5 minutes it's 5 minutes
but at 65 pounds you shouldn't need much rest

Slow and steady.
Do not rush.
Add small weights as long as you can.
Avoid injury.
It sucks to stop for two weeks cause something hurts and then to have to lower your weights.
