What is a good way to improve power for jump back kick?

you don't. getting both your feet airborn is not a good way to generate power.

I thought jump back kick was one of the few really useful kicks. Are you suggesting it is a waste to improve?

Fuck yes its a waste. The guy is going to grab your leg and put your ass on the ground.

Also you get power from punches and kicks from the ground up and pivoting your body force into it. Doing a jumping back kick just throws your momentum at the person you are attacking.

tl;dr its not very effective.

are we talking competition fighting? like olympic taekwon do? or a scuffle in the street? If you try and kick someone above the waist in the street, you'll end up on the ground, period.

The Jump kick is all flash and no bash, unless your coming down with it axe kick or knife edge kick. The movement of a person leaping to a kick at opponent is all about stunning from the large movement usually though (think of it like when a cat or bear just stands up or makes them selves big to scare an attacker).

A true powerful kick is the spinning back or spinning side kicks getting the twirl and pivot from the foot, knee, and hips, to build up transfered momentum into the force of the kick and can really send an opponent flying if your footing is proper.

Only if you're slow.
