Hey /fit/

I eat, way to much. i really need to stop. would it be helpful to do like a 3 day fast, and clean everything out of my system, and flush it with water? or should i just start?

If you're going to fast, be sure a doctor knows that. It'll shrink the size of your stomach but you'll be very weak and likely not able to do much but think about how hungry you are (for the first few hours, at least)

If you've never fasted before, try a one-day stint and see how you hold up. Don't go for a multiple-day thing until you know your own limits

You'll likely have to sit down a few times. Do it first on a day off, or at least a day when you're not working on your feet so much. You'll be tired and probably get light-headed at least once. I did it for a day while I worked a desk job and had trouble keeping myself focused.

Also, don't believe the "detox" mythos that so many fasters advocate. You're not flushing anything out of your body--you're physically shrinking the size of your stomach and kicking your metabolism in the ass.

You won't lose any significant amount of weight by fasting for 24 hours (maybe a pound), though drinking more water will definitely cause you to drop a pound or two in water weight.

Your metabolism should be back to normal after a day or so, though it WILL slow down during the fast. Keep in mind that, no matter what the circumstances, cutting down on food means that your met will instantly adjust itself and will stay that way unless you exercise (which you shouldn't be doing on a fast) to bump it back up.

You're basically just making your stomach shrink, physically. It's not a terribly bad idea, esp if you're just embarking on a serious diet. Just be VERY careful about doing it.
