You are what you eat. No amount of exercise will get into perfect health. Eating is the MOST IMPORTANT thing.

For example, my physique is very high in proteins but lacks the calories that many want for greater muscle mass. If you don't have the calories to be coupled with your protein, you'll plateau as I do - but then again I don't want bulk.

Let me know what your current goals are and I'll assist - with links to back it up.

It's more important to know where you're starting from.

I'm 5'7 and Weigh 210LBs. and am very lethargic to start working out. I've tried gyms but my muscles always end up too sore to go the next day. Advice?

So I'm in pretty good shape. Most days, I spend an hour running, swimming, biking or on an elliptical. Recently, I've become interested in weightlifting but I don't really know where to go with it. I've been wandering around my gym, choosing machines at random and doing 3 sets of 15 reps of a weight that makes me strain a little. Is this... good?

I'm 5 feet tall and was a hardcore swimmer in high school, so I'm already pretty muscular for my frame and don't want to gain more muscle. I just want to tone up and burn some fat in a new way. Should I keep doing what I'm doing? Lift heavier weights less? Lift lighter weights more?

I'm not OP, but that's normal. It's called lactic acid build up. When you exercise, your body has a harder time getting oxygen to the muscles, and lactic acid is a byproduct of the body burning it's energy stores in the lack of oxygen.

Hot tubs, hot showers, light swimming, zero gravity, and massages all help alleviate it a bit, because they "loosen it up" or disperse it more evenly.

Keep at it, and it won't hurt as much anymore. And it's not because you get used it, it just seriously stops hurting as much after a workout if you've done it so many times.

>Contrary to popular belief, this increased concentration of lactate does not directly cause acidosis, nor is it responsible for delayed onset muscle soreness.[1] This is because lactate itself is not capable of releasing a proton, and secondly, the acidic form of lactate, lactic acid, cannot be formed under normal circumstances in human tissues. Analysis of the glycolytic pathway in humans indicates that there are not enough hydrogen ions present in the glycolytic intermediates to produce lactic or any other acid.

>The acidosis that is associated with increases in lactate concentration during heavy exercise arises from a separate reaction. When ATP is hydrolysed, a hydrogen ion is released. ATP-derived hydrogen ions are primarily responsible for the decrease in pH. During intense exercise, aerobic metabolism cannot produce ATP quickly enough to supply the demands of the muscle. As a result, anaerobic metabolism becomes the dominant energy producing pathway as it can form ATP at high rates. Due to the large amounts of ATP being produced and hydrolysed in a short period of time, the buffering systems of the tissues are overcome, causing pH to fall and creating a state of acidosis. This may be one factor, among many, that contributes to the acute muscular discomfort experienced shortly after intense exercise

My main problem is trying to figure out which exercises to include in my routine since there are so fucking many.

I'm 5'8 and 145 lbs. I've been told that this is a healthy weight to be at, but unfortunately I'm self-conscious and want to drop a bit so that I'm satisfied with how I look.

The problem is that it's extremely difficult to lose weight when you already know on your mind that you're not horribly unhealthy. Any exercise tips or anything that'd help me take off one or two more pant sizes?

If you're a man that's a good weight to be at. If you have low self esteem the problem is probably something else, not your small amount of body fat.

Try building some muscle instead of trying to starve yourself, it'll make you look better and probably help you feel better about yourself as well, without going into an unhealthy weight range.

I became vegan recently, so I don't eat much other than rice, steamed vegetables, fruits, bread (I don't care that honey is in it), cereal, soymilk, and lots of water/tea, as I can't trust any of the other foodstuffs at my dorm cafeteria. I'm 168 pounds and 5'7", are there any other changes I should make to my diet? I'm just looking to lose weight through my diet while I go to the gym.

don't workout the same muscle group on successive days; you need to space it out

For example, if I have 3 routines (A:upper body, B: lower body, C: core), on week 1 I do ABCAB
week 2 CABCA
week 3 BCABC

wash rinse repeat
