Lazy Man's /fit/ thread. The one nutrition food group I'm lacking severely in is of course fruits and veggies. I doubt I'll start eating fruits and veggies regularly any time soon. Well, today, I see this commercial

"V8 V-Fusion® is a breakthrough juice that gives you a full serving of vegetables plus a full serving of fruits* in every 8-oz. glass."

In your opinion, would forcing down a glass of this stuff a day be an alright alternative to helping my nutrition needs?

it all depends on how much you trust V8's claim. Of course, you can always get used to eating old fashioned fruit and getting the extra fiber and full feeling.

Fruit is delicious. How can you not love it? It's nature's candy, except it's healthy.

Vegetables I can understand, I suppose, since they don't have the greatest taste ever. But just eat some anyway, it's not that hard. Cool, long cucumbers are great.

shit is delicious, also drinking the berry flavors, the purple and blue ones, keep you from getting so sore after working out.

You short-change yourself, sir, with your poor nutrition! Would you expect a horseless carriage to fire without petroleum distillate? No!

There is no replacement for Nature's bounty in its full, vital splendor! Fruits, such as this confounding specimen from the South Seas, contain a cornucopia of chemicals and "vitamins" that fire the steam-engine of the body!

Overcome your slothful ways and fill yourself with greenery; you have the world to gain!

a serving is = an apple, or an orange, or something quite easily fit in a bottle. a serving is a very subjective term. it's defined differently by different people. breakthrough my ass.

V8 is a good source of veggies, but obviously not the best source, and doesn't have the variety that you should be looking for.

V8 Splash, and to a greater extent Fusion, are sugary drinks meant to appear healthy, but really aren't that great.

All vitamins will degrade quickly when juiced or anything that puts them not in their original form. Some are light and heat sensitive, so you miss most of the nutritional content. The main benefit besides vitamins is the cellulose or fibre content. This mostly passes through your digestive system and helps improve dental and digestive health.

Juices are bad sources of sugar. A piece of fruit of juice might have a healthy amount of sugar, but when it is juiced, that sugar becomes much more concentrated and can be detrimental, especially if it is a large part of your diet.

Usually I'd say the case is fruits will have a healthy amount of sugar. In juice it might be concentrated, it doesn't matter it's natural or not.

Dilute to half if you really must have juice. Of course, it's the surge of sugar that's really appealing. So, yeah, I just don't bother with juices.
