All right, never realized this place existed, and I realize that this might be a good place to get the kind of info I need.

I'm severely overweight. 5' 11", 260 pounds. Kind of a long story, but long distance girlfriend, moving to where she is in a year, want to drop at least 60 pounds in that time. However, I've never been the most active of persons.</understatement of the century> I'm not the healthiest eater, either, but I've drastically cut down on how MUCH I eat in the last months or so. So I'm looking for some basic starter tips so I can get my ass off this chair and hopefully, off my body.

...the picture is...vaguely related.

he says the thruth: eat healthy (OATHS! but also fruit, veggies), cook your meals yourself if at all possible, and estabilish a training routine. Calisthenics, running, bike riding, swimming - pick one and don't stop. Hell, pick all and alternate between them.
You have a long way to go - better get moving ;)

You have a year to change habits and lifestyle - prepare for drastic and permanent changes!

1) Lurk moar. Asking /fit/ for "basic starter tips on how to lose weight" is like walking into church and asking if they've ever heard of some guy called Jesus. Wait 5 minutes and somebody will already have answered your question.

2) 60 pounds in a full year is about 575 calories per day. You can burn them through exercise or cut them from your diet (probably a combination) but they need to disappear. Which basically means, to reach your goal at a reasonably healthy speed you need to start aggressively NOW and not fuck up.
