Hey /fit/guys,

I have a couple of questions. I've started an exercise regime right after the 4th of July. At that time I was around 210 pounds. Since then I've gone down to (yesterday) 183 pounds. I exercise pretty much every day doing some cardio, then crunches, then weight lifting (recently). The problem is I'm still retaining a decent amount of fat around my mid-section, and not gaining any definition or slimming down any. What can I do? (Pic Related, it's me)

Have you considered situps? Crunches? Things that actually use your abs?
>> Anonymous
eat less?

also lol @ flat chest pierced nipples

some people should really be shot

How tall are you, OP?

Get a personal trainer, dont rely on 4chan corrupted lols

Can't burn fat from specific areas. All that will do is give him huge muscley abs...under a layer of fat. Which will look the exact fricken same.

Plus, dipshit, he already said he does crunches.

Anyway, to OP, you've lost a good amount of weight, so first of all, good job on that man. As for your question, are you eating well? How much cardio are you doing a day? What's your weight lifting program? Some more information would be very helpful!
>> Anonymous
>>14567
Ha. I made this mistake. I did a shitload of crunches every day while losing weight. I lost 44 pounds ( I was 204lbs ) I'm about 5'10. what I've ended up with is rock hard abs under about an inch of flab. oh well back to gym for me
>> BOwen !i7E4yRzZEQ
>>14573

It's an easy mistake to make, and honestly, it's not THAT bad. At least when you lose the weight, you'll have some VERY defined abs waiting for ya!

>>14567
OP Here

I'm between 5'9" and 5'10"

I eat decently well, though I'm a college student so I'm frequently eating between classes. I generally don't eat fast food (though I indulge every once and a while). I usually have some ramen, or canned soup for lunch, and something like a sandwich or sub for dinner. My biggest indulgence is soda and coffee.

I'll use cardio as my warm up these days. Do an 8-9 minute mile, then stretch and do sets of weights. I'll alternate between lower and upper body, doing short sets of lighter weights with more repetitions.

>>14585
Try to eat 5-6 times per day, with a source or lean protein in each of your meals, in conjunction with a simple carb (like an apple) or a complex fibrous carb (broccoli, peas, a tomato, etc).
>> Anonymous
>>14585
with that body stop doing the weights. the diets you need for fat loss and muscle gain are very different, eat a low fat diet and do all cardio. trim that extra flab off before bulking.
>> Anonymous
lol I weigh a few pounds more than op but I dont look that fat.
>> Anonymous
You started July 4, 2007, and thats all you lost?

Eat better, god damn it. You obviously exercise and gorge yourself with terrible food a little after.

>>14587

OP

I've read this in books and what not, but it's not very practical for my current schedule. I get up at 9. Work til 12 , then have class til 5.

>>14588

Any suggestion for cardio for anything more than running?
>> BOwen !i7E4yRzZEQ
>>14587
Amen. More smaller meals will help you out a lot, if that's at all possible.
>>14588
You should still be doing closer to an hour of cardio EVERY SINGLE DAY. You are not in the stage yet where it should be simply used as a warmup.

That said, don't cut out all the weight lifting, it's still useful and will help. But seriously, the cardio right now should be your main focus.

>>14590
Real constructive comment dipshit. You could have less body fat, be taller, etc. etc. I know this is 4chan, but come on, you can do better than that.
>> BOwen !i7E4yRzZEQ
>>14600

Rowing machines are great. It'll also work your muscles more than running will. Work hard on a rower and you WILL BE SORE.
>> Anonymous
begin smoking. It raises your metabolism and once you've lost enough weight just don't eat too much and you'll keep the slim figure!
>> BOwen !i7E4yRzZEQ
>>14599

Honestly, I wouldn't doubt if he's gained a fairly significant amount of muscle in that time frame. That'll make his actual weight loss not seem nearly as good as it really is. Depends on his before/current bodyfat %.
>> Anonymous
If you're doing the same thing every single day, that will present a problem. You need to do different exercises everyday- it's called 'muscle confusion'.
>> Anonymous
>>14604

Unfortunately, My campus doesn't have rowing machines

>>14612

I can tell I've lost a decent amount of body fat, but gained muscle. Basically I've lost a decent amount of flab but as state above it feels like I've got an inch of fat over my muscle
>> BOwen !i7E4yRzZEQ
>>14627

Well that sucks.

Uh, how about eliptical machines? I mean, it's not much different from running, but even a slight change might make you feel a bit better.
>> Anonymous
Ok, Another question from the OP

Often when I go to the campus fitness center I feel very intimidated by the other people there. I compare myself to them and feel inadequate, and start to get depressed. Is there anything I can do to not feel so bad?
>> BOwen !i7E4yRzZEQ
>>14639

I'm not going to respond to that, even if you really are OP.
>> Anonymous
So basically I should focus on doing more cardio (until when)? And try to refine my diet to more smaller (healthier) meals?

Any other suggestions?
>> Anonymous
>>14639
Get an exercise partner who is in shape and talk to them about your problems. They might enjoy helping you with it. :)
>> Anonymous
quit drinking soda altogether..its ok everyone once in a while
coffe is no better. water is your friend. trust me after you work out a lot and start drinking only water you will start to crave it like you do soda. drink more water. and when you feel hungry...try drinking water first. sometimes people mistake thirst for hunger.

try to eat before you get hungry. eat 5 times a day. you need to keep your metabolism charged up so it can keep burning.
3 meals. decent meals. not ramen or fast food. it may be easy but its easier to go to the supermarket and get some stuff and fix it all one night and be prepared for the week. snacks should be nuts, fruits, and yogurt.

of course it might be god's way of punishing you to stay fat because you got those gays ass nipple rings.

seriously op wtf?

I wanted them. I like them. How can start budgeting to afford healthy, cheap food, on a college kids budget. (I make about 200 a month)

Come the fuck on man. My friend weighed over 360 lb when he first went to the gym. But he didn't care. Whats more important, dying before you're 35 or being giggled at from some stupid bitches?

My friend now weighs 215 after about a year of cardio and weight lifting. He probably extended his life about about forty years, and he still continues to work out.

I'm just like op, but no nip rings

>>14604
I just discovered the rowing machine myself. Fucking love it. Spend at least 10 mins on it.

>>14567
I have that problem that most men face. MY FAT SPARE FUCKING TIRE. Doesn't matter how many goddamn sit-ups crunches etc I do... Its still there. Srsly for myself I need to work on my diet. Good luck OP I understand.

hows the water at your school? drinkable out of the tap?
also what country do you live in. $200 a month? i mean you could get a really shitty part time job that doesnt have that many hours and get way more money then that. but with 200 bucks? shit man...healthy food is expensive. especially organic shit
>> Anonymous
>>14885

To get financial aid (to reduce my tution) I have to work on campus. As of right now I can only work 8 hours a week (fucking librarian bitch).

Waters drinkable, though not great. I usually filter it in a pitcher, then drink.

>>14873
All the sit-ups in the world will not make the fat go away. Cardio is the only thing that will.
>> Anonymous
>>14554
wow, total misunderstanding of how your body works. Fat doesn't like...magically turn into muscle. Muscle and fat are COMPLETELY seperate. The only correlation between muscle and fat is that muscle burns more calories if it is tone, and fat is essentially your bodie's way of storing extra calories.

To get rid of extra fat you need to really cut out high fat/sugary things from your diet. Carbs and other sugars are the last hold outs in your healthy lifestyle. Further-more, since you seem to have hit a plateau of fat, you are clearly still eating more calories than you burn in your workouts. This doesn't mean you are unhealthy, just that you need to reduce caloric intake, or reduce the TYPE of food you are eating.
>> Basement Dwelling Troll !MFbxgC5u3.
>>14957
Yeah and I stick to a good 30 min of jogging machines and now a good 10 mins of rowing machine. Then its sit-ups, ab crunches and mostly upper body work.
>> Anonymous
>>14967

And I would like to do that but I'm not sure of the diet I should be following (again the money restriction)? The other problem is that I get light-headed if I don't eat above a certain amount a day.
>> Basement Dwelling Troll !MFbxgC5u3.
>>14974
To be honest I find low fat yogurt very filling for snacks or as a morning breakfast with my cereal bar.

OP Here.

What I'm thinking of doing, and what I did when I worked out tonight, is to invert my workout schedule.

Basically I'll do cardio for 45 minutes, then in my last 15 do crunches, rowing, and some sets of lifts.

In addition, I'll go cold turkey on soda (except for Club Soda).

How do that sound?
>> Basement Dwelling Troll !MFbxgC5u3.
>>15001
Yeah cut the soda. I'm going cold turkey on the powerade shit myself on work outs and just drinking straight water.
>> Anonymous
The best way to burn fat during exercise is a low-impact activity for a long period of time. Fat burn does not actually kick in until you have burned off your carbohydrates which takes around 20-25 minutes. Any time that you continue working out after that, you will be burning fat. An exercise recommended by most athletic trainers and nutritionists is to walk for 1 to 1.5 hours a few times per week. This is the easiest way to loose fat.
>> Anonymous
I recently went cold turkey on everything but water, and a monster once a week. I must have had over a gallon of water at my four hours at work today.

Rowing machine, when I hit the gym nearby, is the only machine I now use for my warmups. I fucking love that thing.

Anyway, the "can't lose fat in specific area" thing has been beaten like a dozen dead horses in this thread by now. OP, your new workout idea sounds much, much better. Vary the cardio you do to keep yourself interested. If you do use the rowing machine, kick your ass on it and go fast (obviously don't just flail around, go fast but use it correctly), and you'll be absolutely amazed at how tiring it is.

Yes, rowing machines give me hardons. I can't fucking help it.

OP needs to listen to the Anons and quit drinking soda, drink water like a fish instead.

And if you do crunches so much, you probably already have enough ab muscle.

Protip: You most likely will not see your abdominal muscles if your bodyfat is above ~8%

i see fuck all muscle mass so lift weights. this will help reduce fat.

and your diet probably sucks, so change it. in fact i just saw you diet post and it does suck. stop eating so many refined fucking carbs and eat more protein.

>>14600
get up before nine and all your problems dissapear. and yes it will be hard because your diet sucks and eating habits suck, and you can't change them till you get up earlier. lollers.
>> JumpTheShark
You need to cut down more calories and up your cardio. Don't lift weights every day, shoot for three days weights, three days cardio. And cut your calorie intake to maybe 1500 a day.
