it's mostly about bodyfat% anything under 20% is fine.

atleast 6 weeks? you should do 4 week cardio and 4 weak muscle building (weight training) cycle. that way you can lose the fat and look more athletic/muscular.

I'd say more like 9 months, if you work hard and lose 2 pounds a week. It's not terribly healthy to lose weight faster than that.

A pound of fat has about 3500 calories. So you'd have to burn through 7000 calories every week. That's an average daily calorie deficit of 1000 calories. Obviously it's a lot more complicated than that because of water, sugar, etc, but you get the idea.

Let's say you need to eat 2200 calories to maintain your weight. If you continue to eat 2200 calories a day, you'll have to run 5 miles a day to knock off two pounds a week. When you start to lose weight, you'll have to run even more.

OP, plan for a year. You'll dazzle the beaches in 09. I doubt you'll lose weight fast like a pro, so set achievable and sustainable goals, and think long-term.

Dude I'm 6 foot 1 and 225lb, overweight for MY height.

You need to lose about 40lb stat

It will take you at the very least 6 months to lose that much weight and that's if you work your ass off.

Personally I'm slightly taller but weight 10 more than you, or rather I did when I started my weight loss plan. As anon said, 2 pounds a week is reasonable. I've been doing this for a few months now and it doesn't even feel like I'm sacrificing anything. Just have to stick to it.

You could always alternate days between cardio and weight training (M:WT, Tu:C, W:WT, Th:C, F:WT).
