Salt & Pepper make me sick Anonymous
I got a haircut today and noticed I have a little gray patch in front of my ear. I am only 22, what the fuck. There are too many to pull out so I need to color it.

Any hair coloring tips? I just need to touch up one little part of my hair and I don't want to do the whole thing. I know I should stick with a lighter color first so I don't make a shitty dark smear if it all goes terribly wrong.

Fuck, I thought you didn't get gray hair until you were 40 or something. Help me out guys.

Dye your hair blond and spike it up.

You're right about going slightly lighter than you think, but also be aware that it might turn out more red than you think--every time I dye my hair any shade of brown, it turns out tinted red.

Other than that, just go for it. Worst comes to worst, you hate the color and you just dye it again. Especially since it's just a little patch.

Live with it.

Small grey patches can be caused (and are permanent) by getting a hard blow to the head on that point.

Also I've known at least 6 people in their early 20's go totally salt and pepper. It isn't really a bad look. It is when it goes white.

Even I've got a few grey hairs at 25.

im 19 and have grey hairs

I am 21 and I have 2 grey hairs that I know of. One on the right side of my forehead, and one by my ear.

I've had both since I was like 14 though.

It could be a lot worse. At least your hair isn't thinning. Balding is probably the second biggest turn off--being overweight being the first.

My fiance had a few gray hairs when I met him when he was 14. He has a lot more now throughout his head and he's only 22. I kind of like it.

I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GREYING HAIR BECAUSE MY HAIR IS FALLING OUT. GODAMMIT. THE TEMPLE AREA IS RECEDING AND THE TOP OF MY HEAD IS THINNING. SHIT SUCKS.

Yeah I have had one or two grey hairs, but this is an actual grey patch. Not an errant one or two.

My hairline is receeding a little but I still have a head of thick beautiful wavy fucking hair. It's not too upsetting. The ladies love it. :D

So you can't use brown at all, and have to go with darker colors like black? Thanks for the advice, I wanted to hear from somebody who dyes.

You greying hair guys are lucky. I'm 21 and balding BAD. My head is starting to look like George Costanza's from Seinfeld

No, you can use brown. In my experiences, and with many brunettes I know, browns tend to leave my hair tinted red especially in sunlight. Since I'm 100% your hair is shorter than mine, you're probably safe--it'll be less noticable.

However, matching to your natural hair color will be tricky since you're only dying a small patch. Try coloring just a small section of your hair in a non-obvious place (i.e. not next to your face) and check that it's truly the same color.

Also, since it's a grey patch, it might take color a lot better than my hair, since I was dying on top of a light brown to get rid of sun-bleached highlights.
