Hello /fit/, I'm a 21 y/o male, 205cm (6"8") 95kg (I don't do lbs.) Over the last few years I've used jogging 2-3 times a week to keep myself in decent shape, and lately I also go to the gym.

However lately my calf muscles have been becoming quite tight when I run, to the point where it recently caused a small tear.

I stretch thoroughly before and after each run for 10 minutes, and know how to stretch, so I don't think thats the problem. I think I need to find some kind of alternative aerobic exercise or I could put myself out of action for a long time.

What does /fit/ recommend as another form of aerobic exercise thats less intense on a particular muscle group?

dont stretch before you run. Run for about 5 minutes THEN stretch. stretch again at the end. Stretching BEFORE a run is like stretching a cold elastic band. If you want low impact toning exercise without the hassle of gym memberships, consider yoga. Builds the same lean muscle type as in jogging.

swim. that wont ruin your calves. Falling short of that alternative I suggest going and seeing a physio. It's what they're there for..

This explains a lot. I've been wondering why the muscles were sore AFTER I stretched them when I hadn't even started running yet.

Whenever I told anyone about the problem they would always say "LOL DID U STRETCH BEFORE YOU RAN".

Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out next week when I stop limping
