Got hit by a car Anonymous
So I was riding my bike yesterday and was waiting at a stop sign to cross the road. About 20 seconds after i pulled up and was waiting for traffic to clear so i could cross a old man in a car hit by bike and ran over half of it. I was able to jump off but now my bike is totaled. I called his insurance company and they said he would like to settle this personally with out the insurance company. My bike is worth around $1000 and its my main transportation to school. What should I ask for damages? people have been saying i should ask for $2500 if they don't want to have it dealt with the insurance company.

yeah that sounds good. just tell him how you need to pay for cabs in the meantime until your bike comes because its on back order, etc etc

Serves you right for riding your bike in the middle of the road, asshole.

Yea, 2500 sounds fare. If they ask what's up, refer to the above post.

It might be a bitch going back and forth with everything, but what's important is that you end up with a new bike and, if you're lucky, some cash on the side.

Were else would I be riding on a one lane road to turn left? California Bike Law says I don't even have to use the bike lane and I can use the full lane.

Do you have a speedometer on your bike? Do you accelerate as quickly as the cars ahead of/behind you at stop signs/traffic lights? Can you reach and maintain the speed limit through the entirety of your route? If you can and do, then I apologize for calling you an asshole.

If not, fuck off. Use the fucking shoulder, asshole.

That's retarded. EVERY state I've EVER lived in (Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, California, Colorado) has ALWAYS had bikes obeying the same rules as traffic and ALWAYS being disallowed from riding on the sidewalk (though the fuckers do ride on the sidewalk anyway), with a preference for the bike staying as far right as possible, so left turns are a situation where the biker ought to be in the normal left side of a traffic lane.

In fact, I'm pretty damn sure there's no state where bikes are supposed to ride on the sidewalk, that's just stupid.

You're right about bikes not being allowed on sidewalks.

In Colorado, though, cyclists are not required to stay as far to the right (or left) as possible. Cyclists here are regarded as equivalent to motor vehicles and are entitled to an entire lane of traffic, except where bike lanes are provided or where bikes are specifically prohibited (e.g. interstate highways).

bikes should ride on the fucking sidewalk, how many faggot pedestrians are walking when not in the city?

Don't be a greedy bitch. Request what you need for a new bike, truth to be told you shouldn't even be getting a new bike.

However, don't get scammed yourself. Request the thousand dollars now or call up your insurance company today.

Maybe you looked past the fact that the dude GOT HIT BY A FUCKING VAN. Had he not jumped off in time, he likely would have been permanently injured; or killed.

Get as much as you can from that old fuck, and make him feel lucky he isn't losing his liscense (which he should be anyway).

Bicycles are to follow slow moving vehicle traffic laws. THink horse and buggy.

let me point something out to all the idiots who think bikes should stay in the bike lane:

roads are not flat, they are curved so that rain water runs off to the sides to prevent slippery conditions. Do you realize how difficult it is to ride on a slope? Furthermore, since all the water pools up on the sides, the road is more prone to cracks and damage caused by seasonal damage. Not to mention all of the broken glass, garbage and so on that gets pushed to the side of the road. Bike lanes, unless maintained (which rarely happens) are a death trap for cyclists
