Does anyone on /fit/ do Grip training?
>> Anonymous
No. How stupid.

Yeah, revolutionary new grip technique. They're called "deadlifts."

I have Captains of Crush 1 and 2.

#1, gets 9 reps
#2, barely can close it once

If you're deadlifting heavy you will develop mad grip without extra training.

Not much point with them things imo, any exercise where you have to grip the bar hard improves your fore arms.

Although they arent a bad stress relief

I do deadlifts, etc. But I also do grip training also just to give my forearms an extra workout. I have really thin feminine forearms so I go out of my way with exercises to increase their size.

When I deadlift, I support the par with the ends of my fingers. I barely even make a fist. Makes the lift easier imo.

Clean-grip (overhand) Deadlifts are great for grip training. So are Kipping Pull-ups (once you can do enough of them).

I use grippers, per the last thread about them. They don't kid around, these things do blow up your forearms. I've gotten to the 250 lb one which I can close a number of times, but the 300 lb is just too much if I'm looking to close it more than once.

I also find it helps my deadlift because I'm ready for those heavyass weights before I'm ever really trained for them. Jumped 30 lb in my last deadlift yesterday and grip was really least of my worries.

Undoubtedly, deadlifts will give you strong hands. But they only train it in an isometric hold, which in grip training is called the support grip. Deadlifts won't train a crush grip. So, that's where Captains of Crush, Ivanko, or other heavy duty grippers come into play. They train your hands for strength in movement. Think of it this way, deadlifting and other support grip movements is analogous to a Charles Atlas isometric-style training, where you only develop strength in one position. That's why a lot of guys train with different width bars. Now, grip training is for your hands like what deadlifting does for your whole body. It trains it too be strong through the whole movement.

Forgot to add Farmer's Walks. Those work great, not to mention being one of the most real-world-applicable exercises in the book.
