How many anons on /fit/ are trickers?

In case you don't know, is martial arts meets acrobatics, sometimes called XMA (xtreme martial arts). Tricking is the concept of pulling various moves from Gymnastics, Breakdancing, Capoeira, Taekwondo, Wushu, and other disciplines that provide an impressive feat of gravity defiance and overall body control.

In short, kicks-n-flips. How many of you trick?

Are you retarded? How is jumping around like a faggot considered martial? Or extreme? Fucking gay bullshit.

It's not something I often refer it to, but that's where it branched off of. Originally martial artists started modifying their forms to add more twists and inverted rotations of the body for show. Ultimately it branched into it's own scene where stunt doubles or famous movie martial artists can be seen performing these tricks for a flashier move.

This is not practical in a real fight by any means and no one claims it to be. It's just where its roots are and where the basics come from. You can throw a jackknife without knowing how to do a round or a hook kick.

Not the other poster here. Don't get me wrong, it's impressive and all, you're just inevitably going to come up against alot of confrontation if you relate it in any way back to martial arts. Especially among the anal retentive denizens of /fit/.

I have to respect the superb control of the body, but I find it hard to think of this as anything more than airbone breakdancing or fancy stuntwork.

Its called tricking for chissakes

Being flashy when fighting is fine. Martial arts can be interpreted as an 'art form', and the end result is more like dancing than fighting.

Don't pull that shit off in the ring though.

None, because most of us are not attention whoring faggots.

>>98478

for fuck's sake, I don't call it that. It's not in any way martial but it has its roots in martial arts modified forms.

>>98472

I noticed...I'm a martial artist too with 6 years in Taekwondo/Hapkido, 1 year in Mixed Martial Arts, and a little dabbing in various other styles. I do this on the side FOR FUN.

Geez, a lot of you are bunch of anal tards today, huh? Thank you, single anon, for seeing it for what it is. Impressive and cool, but by no means a form of self defense.

eh, hardly about showing off and more about the self satisfaction of doing something crazy/awesome. I'm a trickster and I not only thoroughly enjoy doing a good b-twist s/t gainer, but watching someone else pull a cork2corkscrew

I'd like to do something like this. Not for attention whoring purposes, but just to learn how to move my body with such momentum. I have the right build, but hell, I can't even dance. Let alone this.

Trust me, I can't dance either. All you really need is to be in shape, have decent flexibility, and a lot of dedication. Find some tricking tutorials on youtube or go to www.trickstutorials.com for help and support.

Basics tricks are probably tornado kick, backflip, aerial, and a few others. But if you can't do those, at least have a good round kick, handstand, and cartwheels for now.

I used to be part of the tricking scene early on in the late 90's-early '00s, when doing a gainer full was ridiculous enough. But as time went on I saw a lot of my friends get injured as the difficulty went up. Once people were doing shit like corkscrew 900's, double gainer fulls, standing 720 twists, 1080's, etc I stopped trying to keep up. I like having my ACLs in one piece.

This stuff is great when you're a teenager into your early twenties and can bounce back from tears or pulls fairly fast but I've still seen enough people blow out their knees and ankles to not try to keep up anymore.

>>98999

hey! I'm 21...lol

but yea, I'm not really looking into trying anything too sick or out of this world. It's not a game of catch-up to me, although some legends do inspire me to try harder. I do it for the fun of it and the overall b-boy philosophy of it all. i'd love to someday land my corkscrews but I think I'll be happy just putting it through a s/t, I don't care too much about doubles or anything like that, I've seen what happens to those who push themselves too far and freerun the shit out of their tricks until they're paralyzed and can barely walk if they're even alive.

which makes me wonder, has any tricker ever really DIED?
>> Anonymous
>>98999

I just learned to b-twist recently, and they're so fucking easy now! Why the hell were they so hard in the first place?! I can practically do standing ones no problem! Ugh, all that time and the answer was just in the set...

>>99056
I've got the same attitude. I'm 28 and still have all my most difficult stuff (hypertwist, gainer full, corkscrew, cheat 900). It just amazes me how much the difficulty level got jacked up in the past few years with freaks like Anis and Loopkicks out there. The level I got to personally is fine with me, there are only so many elite trickers out there and I don't need to be one of them.

I've never heard of anybody dying. Funniest story I ever heard though was that Steve Terada blew out his ACLs in BOTH knees and didn't realize it for weeks until he finally went to the doctor. That guy is going to have some crazy fucking arthritis when he's older.

>>99057

Man the B-Twist was like the first major trick I learned back in '97. I was originally trying to initiate the twist with my LEGS instead of my torso and crashed it for months. Only after I got myself on tape did I start making any progress.

A lot of people don't improve as quickly as they could because they don't get themselves on video. Once you can associate the feeling with the visual it becomes easy to realize what you need to put a different emphasis on to experiment effectively.

That helped a lot with just cleaning stuff up, I used to think my B-Twist was the SHIT just because I could land it- and then on video I saw my legs were all bent up, I was at a 45 degree angle, and my arms were all twisted around my head and I looked completely stupid.

Question: How do i learn to trick?

I've been physically fit for a long time now (did a bit of karate / TKD and was a Triathelete in high school), and am not the most flexible person but i aim on doing stretches every morning this summer to fix that...

...Only problem is i live on a beach where no one really is into tricking or parkour, and i don't think any one in my college city is into it either (i've checked around, havn't found anything).
>> Anonymous
I just started figure skating in June 2007, and I still don't even have a multi-rotational jump down. I wonder if this "tricking" would be a good thing to study, instead of ballet.

OP here, I've been in Taekwondo for 6 years and it was a great help since it not only had me in shape but already had me down on the basic kicks and just a few spinning kicks like a Tornado kick and some tumbling and break fall lessons. While this was a huge advantage it wasn't necessary. My best friend never did anything in his life but running and was in shape and somewhat flexible but he was probably the one who grew fastest out of all of us when he started.

Yes, it's hard as hell to find anyone in your area into this stuff because trickers are so far and few between. My two best friends and I started when we saw some vids on Youtube and other sites by fameous teams and trickers who pulled amazing stunts that we never knew were possible. Here's some key Teams to look out for

New Age Ninjas, Team Ryouko, Team FS, EMC Monkeys, Team Chinese Box and various others. Some indy trickers to look out for are the notorious Steve Terada, TimMan, Anis Cheufra, JujiMufu...the list goes on of people who've pushed the envelope.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=pwRRL1VHRAI

now THAT is inspiration.

EMC Monkeys for the motherfucking win

I actually met Xin, eh's a pretty cool guy, jumps off of buildings and doesnt afraid of anything.

But srsly, its always been a dream of mine to be into martial arts acrobatics, i love that shit more than anything....but my problem is this.

I'm 6'7", fat, and 24, far to old to start something like that. The shit you hear in movies about someone being too old to start training, well, its true.

yea...I'm tempted to bawww, but I won't because you just sound like you need a little determination. Don't quit, count the years. You're only fucking 24 years old!! Why would you give up now!? You've got at least tripple what you've experienced ahead of you!

As far as I'm concerned, if you don't attempt to better yourself and grow to become better than you were yesterday, you're technically only dying really slowly.

its going to be a fucking self-fulfilling prophecy. Some group of nuts are going to think oh god its the end of the world lets do something insane and things are going to spiral. And what pisses me off the most is that religiousfags are going to think they are right about the way the world works because of this.... RRRAAAGGGEE
And related to this post, you can always get better plus the doing it should be the fun of it. I do parkour and honestly I suck, but its fun enough that even when I do suck I really dont care if I cant get some vault x(kongs... they take so much commitment when launching on the traceurs behalf to do correctly >.<) for a week.

>>100655

OP again, and I like to parkour on occasion as well. Two completely different things though. Although you require the same amount of fitness to perform either one, to parkour is to be exceptionally good at clearing obstacles and landing safely, often with a roll. To trick is to pull gutsy spontaneous moves. But being a parkour will help you trick because you'll be able to save yourself easier if you bail or mess up badly.

jumping from building to building is a physical activity in the sense that it's identical to the long jump. if you want physical activity, then do the long jump. i see no extra value in doing the long jump from a building to another building.

On the issue of training parkour vs just training broad jump the comparison is not quite good. Parkour is a utilitarian discipline focused on efficient movement through any environment. Now I don't suspect that you ever tried carrying through any movements with the added mental strain of a hight, but let me tell you, it is a completely different experience. Most training of any practitioner of parkour would be like you suggested just training at ground level, training strength etc, but without ever having experienced and worked through the mental block of fear, risk and hight your over drilled broad jump will not mean that you can do the same thing in such a situation.

that's all they're meant for, I don't think I saw one person on here claim it to be for self defense purposes...though I figure if you could throw a 540, your round kicks should be good enough to cleave someone's legs off.
