Sup /fit/What do you guys think of a 5x5 lifting routine? Right now I usually do about 3 sets of 8 reps...
5x5 = Win.
thinking about starting it up myself. sounds like it could be good.
>>444414I did 3x8 for about a year and a half--was oki'm now doing 5x5 and it is kicking my ass and feels awesomedepends on your goals, too
>>444428What type of goal would someone have that wants to start 5x5?
>>444431to be strong as opposed to huge
>>444438whats a good site?
How long should i rest between sets no a 5x5?
>>444464two minutes or so......i dont think it would change how long you need to rest
bump
whats so great about 5x5 than 3x8 or 5x10
>>444601Depends.Assuming you lift heavier when you do less reps and lighter when you do more reps. You will be getting more strength from doing less reps on a higher weight. You'll be getting more size for 7-10 reps though. Anything above 12 is endurance.
>>444609and for fat loss, what's better?this:more strength from doing less reps on a higher weight.orthis:above 12 is endurance.
>>444441murk loarbut really, stronglifts--there's a reason everyone talks about it hereyou'll get a really good beginner workoutalso lisa ling is on cnn right now and she's so goddamn hot i wanna insert my penis into her vagina repeatedly with increasing frequency until all muscles in my body tense simultaneously and i release my dna into her womb>>444464i started out with a 1 minute break between sets, but now that i'm lifting more it is somewhere around 1.5-2 min depending on whether i'm paying attention to my watch or not
read the fucking site, its a grail of lifting information. Seriously, READ IT! Sign up, get the book, READ IT!
>>444431concentric strength without eccentric strength
>>444464>>444464for max strength training, 4 min is recommended
>>444840you're supposed to rest 3-5 minutes for powerlifting. 30-60 seconds for hypertrophy

>>445697NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooo
i usually do light weights for 2 weeks, medium weights for 2 weeks then heavy weights for 2 weeks and then i will take a week off. I do cardio 6 days a week too.
>>445710Sounds like a good plan, besides the "week off" part
i'm doing this now. much better than doing more reps. my lifts have gone up a lot faster. start low like they say and work up to build confidence. i've been lifting on and off for a few years so i started quite a bit higher than recommended.
