There's a 2 hour window of opportunity after your workouts and you want a high-glycemic carbohydrate, along with a high quality whey protein supplement at this time. The combination of the two synergistically produces a strong insulin response and rapidly brings the body back into recovery mode.

so something like a piece or two of whole grain/wheat bread or some oats, or a sweet potato would be the best?

I'm not this guy but I think you whould have to eat a shitload of these foods to even have the quantity of proteins you have in a single scoop of Whey.

A sweet potato would be a better choice than the oats. Oats are more complex carbohydrate, which means they will digest slower. At any other time, complex carbs are a better choice for nutrition, but after a workout, you want something that dissolves quickly. A high-glycemic food will do that. So, if you really want something simple, a sports drink like Powerade or Gatorade will give you what you need, as the carbs come from high fructose corn syrup.

I think you misunderstood, he was asking about what to eat for a high glycemic food. Whey is king for fast acting proteins.
