Hey /fit/, I'm a small guy. About 5'10, 127 lbs. Even though I'm really thin, I'm still...flabby. Now, I'm not looking for HUGE GUTS, but I would like to...tone (?) my body a bit. So, what should I do to go about doing this?

here's a killer tip.

Hit the gym, lift heavy weights 5x5 with heavy lifts such as deadlift, squat and military press, and you'll be set.

If you want, you can hit the gym as many times a week as you'd like and lift only 3x3 per session. Never to failure, never over 80% of your 1RM unless trying personal record.

Let's just get this out of the way. If you were trying to learn the guitar, and had one of your friends teach you, would the first thing you say to him be, "Hey man, I don't like Death Metal, so can you make sure we don't suddenly start playing like that?"

Sounds kinda ridiculous doesn't it? That's what you just hypothesized by saying that you don't want to become "huge guts." You do not wake up one day and suddenly have a back that people can cut glass on.

As a male of your size, you shouldn't have a single shred of fat on your body. You have to decide which direction you want to go in. You could simply cut ten pounds off, since I'm going to guess you have almost no muscle, the fat should just melt off.

If you want to actually gain the physique of a human being, you could just go to the gym and lift normally. At your size, whether you do isolation or compound, will not change you substantially. You probably aren't going to increase your diet, so your body will hardly change.

Your low body-fat will make you see results almost immediately, because of the sudden shock that you will go under from weight lifting.

It's your choice.

I left this out. If you barely eat anything, and I'm going to assume that you don't, then your metabolism has probably hit bottom. Lifting heavy weights can substantially increase the metabolism, which will help burn off the fat, probably more efficiently than cardio.

30 min(minimum) cardio(to get rid of that flab and to warm your muscles before you lift)
3X a wk should be good for you
and nutrition is key as well as proper use of the equipment(remember its beter to lift light and be in control than to go heavy and injure yourself)

Even if you were to stick cardio and resistance together, cardio after lifting would be optimal. You're expending energy that could be used for lifting, and the glucose depletion post-resistance makes for an optimal fat burning zone.
