What's good food to eat before going to the gym? Spaghetti and chicken seem like a good combination to me. I'll be doing a bit of cardio but mostly weights.

Very light carbs, for a tiny energy boost.

Fucking bump, was just about to write the same thing.

Really want to know what's good for the snack half an hour to an hour before hitting the weights. My mate swears by a can of tuna.

What kind of foods fall into that category though? I intend to spend a good few hours there.

Fruit, like a big apple, and a protein shake.

Spaghetti and chicken... maybe if it was that whole grain pasta stuff, that oughta work. But sounds good AFTER the gym.

My Airforce ROTC guys always tell me to eat a banana before PT.
Bananas ftw.

Odd, I usually try and satiate myself, chomp down on a few pieces of wholegrain toast and marmite (in b4 kiwifag) so I feel content. Not full, just content. Feels like I've got something in me when I'm working out.

Doesn't really help that I have an office job and try to eat as little as possible during the day to alleviate my lethargy so when I get home before my workout I'm fucking starving.

I do the same thing also.
How long do you wait before you go and exercise?
>> Anonymous
>>113096
I eat it about 40mins before.

>>113092
as a snack all I need is a small banana to feel content so i guess just keep eating that.

Perhaps I should wait 40 minutes also.
Sometimes I get impatient and run right away, then my stomach starts to cramp. :|

banana guy here (not the airforce one), I tried eating pasta before working out once and had to stop after 4mins because I would have threw up. Try eating it if you want but don't much of it, save it for afterwards or something.

You're a Kiwifag? OH GOD ME TOO. <3

Pasta sounds way too heavy. You be barfing everywhere a few minutes in.

You want something that'll keep you from passing out, but also from going Exorcist everywhere. Try a banana like everyone's been cock-riding so far, but smear with some peanut butter too.

coffee and a small sandwich

Nightmare mode.

1.5/2 hours before workout: Chicken breast + small potato (replace with any other slow carbs, like wholemeal bread or pasta or whatever if you want)

Half an hour before: Large apple, 30g whey protein shake

Immediately before: Creatine 5g

During: Water water and more water.

Immediately after: 40g Whey protein shake. 5g creatine and 50-80 grams of simple carbs, e.g. white bread or a bottle of Gatorate.

Stolen from some magazine btw, But modified slightly and used religiously by myself with great results.

Before the gym, I generally go fruits. When I know I'm going to have a big day at the gym tomorrow, I'll eat pasta the night before with fruit right before, but I cannot imagine eating pasta right before the gym.

Also, bananas rock because the potassium helps with muscle cramping and fatigue. Always have a banana available.
