Ssup /fit/?

So I'm a 6ft tall male and, for 4 months now, almost 5, I've been on the Atkins diet, progressing along the first stage and so far I've lost 22lbs (10kg).
I went from 291lb to 268lb and I feel alot better, with more energy, lighter and I don't feel those ominous hearthrobs that sent me on the dieting path the first time anyway. Blood tests show that my colesterol is lower than ever before and, overall, I feel alright.

Now, however, I'm looking for muscle-toning exercises to engage in the upcoming summer, during college vacations. What do you /fit/ards recommend? I don't want to be a walking pot of muscle, just, you know, healthy.

Most exercises in which you move weight tone muscle.

also lift free weights they make you functionally strong and train your body as a unit, the way it was designed, which also develops your muscles in a natural athletic proportion as opposed to isolating single muscles which is bodybuidling industry bullshit

You don't have to lower the intensity on either, imo.

OP: This guy is right, though. You should use free weights to build strength and muscle.

final post im going to bed. you can do both resistance training AND cardio, and you SHOULD do both if you are fat. cardio removes fat quickly but your body will burn muscle tissue too leaving you skinny-fat (this happened to me when i lost weight by running and cardio years ago, totally ignorant of lifting weights)

weightlifting is a few hours a week (2 1-hour workouts is enough to maintain or gain a little muslce and improve your strength) - leaves plenty of time for 'body combat' (wtf?) and step classes which are although slightly homosexual, still good for your body

intensity could be high on both if volume is dropped on one or the other, IMO. I wouldn't do 5 sets of 5 on squats, then 5 sets of 5 on deadlifts, with a high percentage of my max. if i did that, i certainly wouldn't repeat it that same week, it's just bad programming and will quickly lead to stalling gains in strength. But sure, 5x5 squats and then a FEW intense sets of deadlifts is probably fine, especially for someone starting out.

OP here:

Thanks for all the advice. To be true, I'm actually trying to shy away from all those, uhmm, more feminine workouts such as step and stuff. I'd rather lift weights and maybe pick up some sort of martial art to keep fit.

Thanks a bunch.

No, no, no. You're thinking of Richard Simmons. Atkins slipped on ice and cracked his head wide open. The Richard Simmons you see now is an evil robot.
