So I just joined a gym. I weighed 300 pounds so I walked for two months and went down to 285 pounds. I wanted more so I joined a gym today.

Is it alright if alternate?
Day 1:Ellipitical, bike riding machine, and some other machine. Plus swimming.
Day 2: Weights

and alternate each day? Also, how good is swimming? I heard that it's a good way to lose weight.

A family member of mine has lost a bunch of weight through ONLY calorie counting and swimming.

Yes, all good ideas, but keep in mind that you need rest. Your muscles need to heal after a heavy workout.

Swimming is great. Zero impact as well, which is important, as any sort of running over an extended period will do some damage to your knees.

Cycling/elipticals are also good.

At that weight, you just should focus on doing whatever you can do that keeps your heart rate up for 40 minutes. You don't need to go all out on the weights, but a few sets a week are a good idea to prevent muscle loss.

Actually, If I remember correctly, Alternating your routine is really good.

You don't really need rest days if all you're doing is cardio. Then again, if you're a giant fatty, you might not have the chutzpah to do an hour of cardio every day. Work up to it.

OP here, I did 30 minutes of elliptical, 30 minutes of another cardio machine, and 10 minutes of bike riding.

Just wanted to say: Wow, good job. And good for you getting your ass into a gym. To be honest, most people never take that step. I have nothing to add except that swimming is WONDERFUL for losing, or maintaining weight, as long as you keep your calories balanced. Plus it's a lot more enjoyable as well.

Anyway, great job and good for you. :)
