Hi /fit/
Ive been talking to my friends about fitness lately. And generally Ive been hearing that people who dont work out can run 2 miles in 17 minutes and do about 30 push ups at one time. Now this bothers me because Ive been working out for about a month now and I can run 2 miles in about 16:45 on average and i have trouble doing more then 30 push ups at one time. and I have to wonder If I was really that much more out of shape then everyone else or if people just lie.

tl;dr No lies, how many push ups can you do, how many miles can you run?

I started cross country running at like 12, by 16 I was pretty competent. I'm 23 now, started weightlifting/gymnastics at around 18...

Couple months ago I probably couldn't do 10 pushups. Now I can do about 35. I don't know what my mile time is.

Best mile so far is 6:45. Ive been running for about 3 months and started at about 10 min miles

unless you see them do something, don't believe it. There are so many ways to bullshit your times and athletic capabilities. Everyone i know can squat 350 pounds but they do it on a smith machine and go 3 inches down.
kind of like how everyone can run a 6 minute mile but if you measured the distance its "kind of a mile" or they count by the minutes not the actual seconds so its more like 6 minutes and 45 seconds rather than 6 (ask a competative runner, 45 seconds is a big deal).

and at the end of the day, as long as you get a clean bill of health and you're feeling fine and dandy then fuck waht other people can do. Believe me, you're not going to live a shorter life than the other guy simply because they can happen to run faster than you.

I remember even being a little fat teenager that if we fucked up in gym we had to do 20 pushups in front of half the school during lunch in the quad. I had never done a pushup in my life, and I didn't even fuck up, it was a whole class punishment. I struggled, but I got through them. Later on when I was skinny I would start with 2x15 pushups, then add one pushup a day for two months so I got up to 75. Took a break for a year, tried to do 50, couldn't do 30, said fuck it, did a bunch of benching for 6 months, came back to the pushups and found I could do 100.

oh and to add, with the running, my time in high school for cross country was 13:45 for 2.375 miles (3.8km). Never trained for it, only entered because it was compulsory, only jumped to the front of the pack because faggots at the back were tripping people and I wanted to get the fuck out from there.

Not sure if I have any real point to make here, but if there is one thing that I've discovered is that playing sports is the best all-round exercise you can do to get fit, not sit in a gym lifting. Both is fine if you can figure out a routine, but if you've only got time to do one: choose sport.

lol well played sir. But i do hate when people who do train intensely look down on me like i'm inferior simlpy because i choose not to do as much as they do. When i tell them im fine not being cut or not deadlifting 400 lbs or that im fine with my stationary bike, they then try to throw that shit in my face tht im shortening my life and that im going to shrivel up and die unless i train as hard as them...ridiculous

those guys are building up bodies they're going to have to spend maintaining for the rest of their lives. As soon as they take a break for a couple of months, it's sag time for tittyville
