How is yamms formed? Anonymous
/fit/, when I was a kid, my family was broke as a joke. We ate yams all the damn time because they were cheap and nutritious, yeah? When I grew up, I said "Fuck a yam, I'm not eating them anymore" because by god we ate them baked with butter and that is all. I didn't even realize you -could- eat them another way until very recently.

Well, a lot of years have passed and you know? They really are very nutritious and they seem like they'll keep you full for quite a while. There's a shit ton of recipes out there for preparing the bastards, and I'd love to hear some of /fit/'s favorite recipes. Anything beyond the basic "Bake at 375F for 45 minutes and put it in your face" is kinda what I'm looking for here.

/ck/ might be more appropriate for this question, seeing as how they talk about cooking and food, nutritious or not.

Shit you're right. I might crosspost there, but I figure /fit/izens will offer some healthy ways to prepare these guys. I've never posted to /ck/ before, but eh, I don't need a bunch of "Ok, start with three sticks of butter," you know?

i boil them up with regular potatoes, then mash em up with a bit of cream and mix in some bacon bits. not entirley healthy, but DAMN does it taste good.

another rather unhealthy thing i used to do was shave slices of yam into the deep fryer using a potato peeler, make my own chips. you can do this in a regular pan with olive oil too, i love em. a little bit of salt helps too.

Not healthy, OP, but delicious: scalloped sweet potatoes.

Use a mandolin/box grater/knife to slice your potatoes thinly (Maybe .25"). I don't know by weight how many you need, but enough to fill a 9"x9" square casserole dish.
Let them soak in cold water while you make a bechamel sauce (google it, it's easy).
Spread some of the sauce on the bottom of your dish, and then spread a layer of potatoes in your pan. Cover them with moar sauce, and then another layer of potato slices. Continue in this manner until you run out of both potatoes and sauce, but leave enough sauce to cover the whole dish. Bake covered at 375 degrees F for one hour, and then lower the temperature to 350 F and continue to bake for another half hour.
Let sit so it can set up, and then eat.

DELICIOUS
