Losing weight -- as simple as counting/cutting calories? Anonymous
Hello, I'm aware that diet PLUS exercise is the best and preferred method to lose weight. However, currently, my body and mind are not in a complete "healthy" state, after a few years of disordered habits and illnesses. I one day hope to be able to eat healthily, have energy, and be able to exercise for extended periods without tiring. If need be, I will elaborate on my health condition. I really don't think it's pertinent at all, since people with various health conditions still lose weight, and still exist in the world, etc.

So, sorry about that, but I just checked out some sites like thedailyplate, which help in counting calories and such. I typed in my calculations and weight loss goals, and it came up as allowing around 1300 calories if I would like to lose weight at the pace I desire. I was honestly surprised by this. That number seems somewhat high, but then again maybe not. Discord and unplanning could easily allow to go over that (unknowingly or otherwise).

Does eating 1300 calories (give or take) sound like it will work? And I know that eating say...1300 calories of fruits, vegetables, etc. would obviously be preferable, but is there any truth to it not mattering SO MUCH as to where your calories come from, rather that you just get them?

I know I have a lot of questions and I rambled on, but I'm genuinely curious. I will post more details and go more in depth if need be, but I'd rather not disclose much about myself, despite remaining anonymous.

What's your height/weight/gender? 1300 calories is way too low for the vast majority of people.

And a calorie is not just a calorie.

Eating healthy food will ALWAYS give you much better results. Eating 2000 calories worth of healthy fats, vegetables, oatmeal and lean meats will have a very different effect than eating 2000 calories worth of donuts.

1300 is a really low amount.

I would never recommend that anyone eats 1300 calories a day (especially men)

What exactly did you put in as your plans for loosing weight?

OP here,

Well...technically I'm in the healthy weight range or whatever, but I don't feel comfortable with myself. I'm 6'1, about 150-155, and I know you'll all probably say stuff about me being scrawny or whatever, but I don't see it or feel it.

I have a disorder known as Fibromyalgia and it's seriously hindered me for around 2 years. I've always had low self esteem, dysthymia, etc. for as long as I remember.

I don't really know, I'd like to be maybe 140 lbs. given I pretty much (NOW, not necessarily for my whole life) can't exercise or at time function properly (can't even get out of bed, go to class, etc.).

I don't feel I should be eating so much, weighing as much as normal, given I'm pretty much not normal.

Well, there wasn't many choices. It was lose 2 lbs a week, lose 1 lb a week, maintain, gain 1 lb a week, gain 2 lbs a week.

I just put it as 2 lbs a week, and that's what came up (1300).
