More of an survey than an actual question but whatever. I'm curious if any of you have ever left something behind.. Maybe an entire lot of friends and.. a life, I guess. And if you've ever regretted it years later?

Yeah, I up and left a butthole rural town for an IT job in the city, I speak to maybe one of my former friends from there once a year -- other than that, I don't have anything to do with my former life... don't regret it either.

Yep it's called going to college. No regrets.

You'd know if you were gonna regret it before you did it. Anyone with any sort of emotions and social adeptness knows exactly how they feel about each and every person they know. If the ties are strong, you'll obviously regret leaving in some aspects. If you're like me and live in a town where everyone is basically a fake dipshit chasing fads, then you won't give two shits and you'll be glad to start a real life.

Repeatedly - We moved when I was age 9 to the other side of the country. New street, friends, school. Not good

I moved age 17 to university across the country somewhere else. Same deal. Was OK for a few months then depression fucked me and it was 5 years of solitude.

After university moved back with my folks by which they had moved again. Back to square one.

Really depends what kind of person you are as to whether moving suits you.

I left my family, not to go to college, but to leave their religion. They already considered me a problem child, and I knew that if they found out I did not believe then I couldn't stand to stay there. So I left, had my friends move all of my belongings into an apartment while I was at church renouncing my parent's religion. Best damn thing that I've ever done. Nothing to regret.

But I still visit them now and then.

Been estranged from my father for around three years now. Don't really understand why it happened the way it did. One day I just moved out from where I lived and threw away my old cel. Still in contact with my mom's side of the family, though.

A year later I abruptly stopped meeting and calling my old (only, tbh) friend from high school. Again, I can't really explain why. Time passes and you think, 'oh, I'll say hi tomorrow' but then you kinda realize how awkward it'll feel saying hi again to someone you haven't seen or heard in a long while and how hard it would be to explain why you did it, so you decide to put it off for just one day more.

Back when I started college I had a pretty bad eating disorder, I lasted a few months then ended up collapsing while studying for a test. I left college on medical leave and my parents shipped me out to the other side of the country to stay with them for awhile, get a job, get back into school.

I left the rest of my family, my friends, my pets and my home. I still talk to a few members of my family on occasion though, and one or two of my friends actually bother to call/aim/txt me every now and then.

It's horribly depressing. Now I feel like a fat friendless fucktard.

Don't talk to my father. He is an alcoholic and he put my mom and I through some nasty shit so I have a grudge. Been about 3 years now but I have managed to run into him a few times since. Once was during driver's ed (he lost his license due to drinking I suppose) and I almost up and left the building because I did not know how to react. I might contact him some day but it won't be for a while still. No regrets.

Lost contact with everybody from elementary school and high school. That makes me sad. I have a bunch of them on Facebook but we never talk. Recently a girl from elementary school contacted me though and we have been reconnecting rather well since.

I've wanted to, trust me. I don't because I believe it won't solve anything in the end. That and jail does not sound like a fun thing.

When i was 7, i had some weird school fobia...made my life difficult, lost almost all my friends...then we moved, my mother died, lost all my friends again, moved again to my father. Well, about 1 year after, my father was diagnosed with cancer and died about a year after...then i moved once more to my uncle's, and left, once more, all my friends behind. In all of these occasions, i had the chance to keep in touch, but i didn't. As a result, when i grew up, i was nearly unable to make any social contacts... and yes, i did regret it. btw there was about 3 years between each time i moved. And that's how my life was screwed.
