generally if you are dieting, liquid calories are among the easiest to push off your daily intake. That being said, if you want to drink something for energy, I would suggest relatively unsweetened green-tea. However, some wine or an energy drink/carbohydrate drink every so often won't hurt you too bad.
The straight-edge guys confuse me, moderation is the best policy most of the time, I'm sure alot of them binge...
