Hey /fit/, I'm 5'11 and 200 pounds, not terribly obese but the gut is there. All I really have access to is a bike though, about how far would be a good distance for me to go every day if I want healthy results? I'd like to do as much as I can over the summer, since I'm off the college afterwards.

Or would running be better all together?

Do you prefer biking or running? Personally, I prefer the former. Don't run unless you have shoes for it or you'll fuck up your knees.

Never thought I'de say this, but dont run fatty! Biking is better for your knee's until you lose weight and adjust to exercise, get your heartrate up to the point that you can talk, but cant sing... and keep it there for about 30 minutes. Distance isn't as imporant as the effect it has.

Also, can you afford to diet?

personally, i wouldn't set a distance in mind. i'd go hard for about 30 minutes for the first few days, get a good sweat going and get my ass used to the saddle. once i was through that, start aim to add more time/distance each week. how much to add? well, up to you but be honest with yourself. challenging yourself will bring better results.

Thanks Anons, will do biking hard for 30 minutes a day for a week or so, then see if I can push it further. I can't afford too much, but it's not like I can afford fast food either, is a good diet that expensive?
