So how much coffee is too much?
>> Anonymous
If you are just drinking it black, it's almost impossible to get too much of it.

Drink as much as you want.

Also, when your caffeine consumption gets ridiculously high, go to the gym and work out. Caffeine is a natural performance enhancer and it's almost self-regulating in that if you get too much of it, your body will react and you'll feel like shit (overly jittery, etc...).

So go to town.

Actually caffeine loses its effect pretty quickly, you build a tolerance to it. As far as I can remember it's 360 milligrams a day and you're hopelessly hooked and 100% resistant in a week. I tend to consume caffeine only when it's actually necessary. If you don't regularly drink coffee you don't get dead tired from the withdrawal effects and when you actually DO drink a cup it gives you a boost instead of removing the withdrawal effects and returning you back to normal.

I'd say if you REALLY like coffee, drink it caffeine free. If you're just constantly tired, stop drinking coffee. You have to pay back the boost you get by being tired, the faster you use energy, the quicker you run out.

Coffee is good if you stayed up too late last evening and you have an important meeting or if you need to write an essay but you can't even open your eyes. It's best to prevent you from falling asleep in the wrong time. Note that caffeine hinders memory and logical thinking while lubricating your creativity. It's easy to write an essay but you'll fail the math test.

lulz, yes, it's almost like heroin

except its nothing like that

even the "withdrawal" symptoms for long-time users are mostly psychosomatic.

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong. Why don't you educate yourself on the pharmacology of caffeine before making such a statement.

And what the fuck is your point?
Mine was that the withdrawal symptoms from caffeine are not psychosomatic. And they aren't.

i was not the original poster you replied to, but please note the use of the word 'mostly'

the worst withdrawal you will get which isnt psychosomatic or behavioural/social conditioning is a headache

Get your goddamn facts straight before making an idiot of yourself. Let me point you to the right direction:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caffeine#Tolerance_and_withdrawal

"Complete tolerance to subjective effects of caffeine was observed to develop after consuming 300 mg 3 times per day for 18 days, and possibly even earlier. Withdrawal symptoms—possibly including headache, irritability, an inability to concentrate, and stomach aches[68]—may appear within 12 to 24 hours after discontinuation of caffeine intake, peak at roughly 48 hours, and usually last from one to five days, representing the time required for the number of adenosine receptors in the brain to revert to "normal" levels, uninfluenced by caffeine consumption."

Have a read, lots of interesting facts in there.
