Are you trying to lose weight or gain muscle? or both? Eating 3 times a day is not enough if you want to gain muscle. I would suggest eating 5-6 times a day.

Breakfast, snack around 10:30 (fruit, light sandwich), lunch at 1, snack at like 3:30 (same thing as before) or something light before you workout, then dinner after your run.

You don't want to be eating too late either.

Eat six meals a day. Doing this will keep your metabolism and protein synthesis high throughout the day. Eating only three meals is not good.

You want to eat 6-8 small/medium meals throughout the day whether your wanting to lose weight or gain weight, doing this keeps your metabolism up.

Also make sure your eating the right stuff, most people would be fine if they just cut the sugar from their diet, along with the ton of sodium. Cut the soda and drink water instead. Yo do not want to just cut the food, instead you want to eat smart.

Not link, but personal story.

I went on a diet plan where I had at least nine servings of protein a day broken up by about 2 hours each time. I would have two servings at a time for real meals, the rest were protein drinks. In 3 months I lost 50 lbs (from 232 to 182, im 5'8"). Eating the smaller meals really, REALLY works, it keeps your metabolism working because it is ALWAYS digesting.

Duno why it worked for me, but I found the best meat to eat for protein (at least in my diet) was chicken. I'd go through four of them a week from Boston Market. It's nothing no one has ever said before; high protein, watch your carbs and fat intake, and lots (cannot emphasize this enough) LOTS of water.

Also, it's obvious. It takes energy to digest food. When you aren't digesting food your metabolism slows down. So the idea is to constantly be digesting food the entire time you're awake.
