I was gonna do this in /ck/ but I guess it makes more sense here. When I was a kid I randomly started hating orange juice and stopped drinking it. A couple months ago though we had nothing else in the house, and I tried it again and realized that I've grown out of hating it and absolutely love it now.

The problem is that now it makes me sick. I wasn't drinking it excessively--maybe 1-2 glasses a day for 5 days or so--but right away I started getting sick on it, and it lasted until I stopped drinking it (it took me that long to realize what was making me ill, I sure as hell didn't suspect the juice). I got better as soon as I went a day without drinking it. About 2-3 weeks later I tried another glass, just one, and was sick again that night.

Is my body just not used to it because I hadn't had it in so long? Is this the kind of reaction that would go away eventually if I kept drinking it? It didn't make me sick as a kid. I like the taste a lot, it's good for you, and we always have it in the house, so it's a shame not being able to drink it at all. I don't think this is an allergy, it's not that kind of sickness.

tl;dr is it possible for your body to train itself not to digest something properly, and is it possible for you to train it back?

at first i thought youd just overdone it by consuming too much vitaminc and got the poops but obvo not.. it could be the acids in it but i doubt it..

OJ has a similar effect on me. Whenever I drink a lot of it I get a headache, and just dont feel so hot for a few hours. I know it's the OJ cause I can reproduce this anytime (not that I'd want to).

Could just be your carton or whatever was bad, or maybe your body overloaded. Throw out what you have, in a week buy a small container and try a glass.

The glass I drank a couple weeks later wasn't the same carton or even the same brand.

Do you have other food on your stomach when you drink it?

I think it's a sugar overload. OJ is very sugary, especially the processed brands.
If you buy a clear container of it, the light that hits it will kill it's live nutrients. This leaves nothing but a bunch of garbage that your better off without.

It was awhile ago, but I think so.

I didn't know that, actually. Thanks for the tip. The first carton we had was a regular opaque cardboard carton, but the second one WAS clear. I'll make sure we don't buy that kind anymore.

My body just does not want it for some reason.

Citrus allergy? Try poking in your arm, just making a small hole, and then drip some orange juice on it. If it gets red, you might have allergy.

Also, does the same thing happen with plain oranges?

You're not breaking down the sugars or whatever, and it's passing through your digestive system. IE: Too much of it is coming out as dietary fiber, not enough is being absorbed.

Do you get a lot of Vitamin C through other foods? You body won't absorb Vitamin C if there's too much in it already, and will pass it as shit.

/ck/ is about making tasty things. /fit/ is about the body, and how things interact with it.

Subtle difference, I know.

Anyways. It is possible that if you don't eat or drink something for a period of time then your body will lose a tolerance to it. I've never heard of orange juice, but I know a lot of people who can't drink pop or anything caffeinated anymore. Because they haven't drank anything caffeinated in so long, when they attempt to drink these things they get heart palpitations and migraines. Fun times.

I grew up drinking only water, milk, and juice. Whenever I try to drink pop I feel terrible afterwards.

I'm the same way with pop. Sugary stuff puts me off, but I drink coffee and tea a lot so the caffeine isn't as big of a deal for me, though I do try to avoid it and go for non caffeinated alternatives when available.
