So Ive been working out for a month already and Ive been eating around 1300 calories/day. I was at 143 lbs and now I am at 139(5'8). I am pretty flabby all around and I barely have any muscle mass.

My question is, should I be trying to lose more fat(I am thinking about going to around 130 lbs) and then start bulking? Or should I just start bulking right now to build muscle first and then cut later?

Picture is me at 143 which almost isnt a difference from what I look now.

Don't bulk you stupid fuck.

Get some protein supplements, eat around 15-1600 calories a day, try to get around 50-60g protein a day.

Work out your entire body 2, maybe 3 times a week, and do some cardio (cycling, jogging, jump rope, whatever you want) a couple of times a week.

I lift 3 times/week split and cardio(cardio 3days and HIIT 2days)/week

I take whey after every workout and run.(pretty much 5days/week)

I do eat about 100g of protein/day though. Is that bad for cutting? If it is, then what should I be eating?

OP here.

I think I am gonna continue cutting because if I were to bulk I would just be gaining more pounds and fat. (I want to lower my bf% before bulking, plus it is easier to cut after you bulk if you start out at a low bf%)

your logic is flawed. Bulking first is pretty much superior in every way for quicker results. The muscle will help you cut.

However, I'm cutting first as well because I'd hate to look like a flat slob.

Okay fine. Ill start bulking now. I now have wasted a month of cutting...oh well. Should I also cut down on cardio? I was doing cardio 5 days/week..2days being HIIT and the other 3 being high intensity cardio.

Yea, I'm 5'8'' about 125 lbs (just went up to 125 recently from 120) and I look pretty muscular (about 8% bodyfat). Always done sports. Not anorexic as I eat over 2000 calories a day

Cutting and bulking is stupid. It's constantly recommended here . . . but only by stupid people.

You aren't eating enough and you almost definitely aren't eating enough protein. Half of that weight you've lost has been muscle.

Increase your protein intake. Work out harder and start doing HIIT.

Then you'll be adding muscle mass and cutting off fat. Cutting first just loses muscle mass and slows your metabolism, making it harder to lose that fat anyhow.

You cannot cut fat and gain muscle at the same time. It just does not work that way. It takes much longer than cutting/bulking to build the same muscle mass.

Whether you are cutting or bulking, taking enough protein is a must for both. It's just the difference in portion, not the whole diet that changes. Just because you are bulking doesn't mean you get to throb down fast food.

As for OP, you don't have much muscle mass to be cutting. Eat more.
