Hey /fit/,

I'm about to cook myself up some oatmeal for dinner. However, I need more protein than it provides, so I decided to add a scoop of whey protein to it. When is the best time to add the scoop?

Do I add it when the water starts boiling and I add the oats? Or, alternatively, do I wait for the oatmeal to be done and stir it in to the plate afterwards?

Thanks.

You eat oatmeal for breakfast or lunch.

NEVER FOR DINNER.

nice rule of thumb, but breaking it won't totally kill you

OP, i'd stir it in after it's done cooking. idk what heat does to protein when it's in powder form, but considering you'd usually consume it without cooking it, it's probably best to add it in last.

Do you eat your meat raw?

Not the instant kind. I bought a 2 lb bag of oats (not the instant or quick cooking kind) and the instructions say to boil the water separately.

So my plan was to add about 1.5 cups of water, boil it, add a cup of oats, cook it, and then eat it plain. At some point I wanted to add a scoop of whey for an extra 24g of protein.

You may think you're clever and have this all figured out, but you really don't.

no, i don't. i also don't sear my whey protein powder on both sides to develop a juicy brown crust before i drink it. logic, folks.

>Whey protein can be denatured by heat. High heat (like the sustained high temperatures above 72 degrees Celsius (160 degrees Fahrenheit) associated with the pasteurization process) denatures whey proteins, destroying some bioactive compounds, such as the amino acid cysteine.

the protein will denature dumbfuck

that's what I thought. but considering all of our cooked meats are essentially denatured protein, i didn't know how that would effect the dietary intake. good info.

When I'm making a protein shake, I throw in a packet of oatmeal and blend it all up together.

OP Here.
This smelled disgusting when the protein was being mixed in.

On the other hand, the vanilla flavoured whey protein actually makes this stuff taste less bland. And by this point the smell was gone.

Yes, I know this is a pointless photo that realistically contributes nothing to the discussion. However, I'm extremely satisfied to know that there are some people out there raging that I'm actually eating oatmeal for dinner.

450 calories, 36g of Protein.

One last comment before I shut the fuck up. Yeah, I put on my 80s play list. As I'm typing this, "Sunglasses at Night" is blaring. Really, really loudly. (800W rms power amp)

I just microwave it and after the oats are cooked then I add the powder + a little milk to cool it down. And brown sugar + cinnamon makes it awesome.
