If you regularly do weight training and you decided to stop for a while, how long would it take before you would start losing muscle?

At least 100 years

I would actually like to know this also.

bump

I had modest gains, then stopped. It took 3 to six months for me to notice a difference, mainly with abdomen and pectorals. I was slight before, but I still have better arms than when I began, and it has been two years without working out. I had the Emo skinny body. If you work out and make some gains, you will "man out," and you won't be able to get the Emo skinny back. Fat will replace your lost muscle without effort. To get back to Emo skinny, you would have to go extreme on diet, plus lots of cardio-type (as opposed to lifting) exercise. At that point, I would say just get the muscle back instead of being wiry. I don't know what I'm talking about. Actually, I should be looking for porn. Excuse my distraction.

Come on, somebody must have a definitive answer.

I heard it takes a few months.

There is no definitive answer. Its different for everyone.

Hey, I'm not stupid. You're stupid.

It entirely depends on your diet. If you start starving yourself, your body will immediately begin holding onto fat deposits and consuming muscle instead. As long as your diet is still good and includes protein, and you don't become sedentary, there's nothing to worry about.

Not OP, but thanks for answering this. I'm going to Iran next summer with my family, and I was afraid of losing all my gains there. We usually visit for two months or so, but I can easily get plenty of protein in my diet while there. I could probably go to the gyms there with my cousins two-three times a week too.

Just be careful how much you eat. Rezazadeh, for example, is one hell of a powerful guy, but I'm not entirely sure you want his body.

You're going to Iran and worried about losing muscle? Enjoy your beheading.

3 days with no training and you start to lose strength.
Might not show in size, but you get weaker.

How much do you have to do to maintain it?

the sad thing about the body is it adapts to workload.
Every bit of muscle that is not necessary is killed off.
So, to maintain a certain status, you have to train to exactly that status, meaning full fucking force if you want to grow.

i forgot, every muscle behaves different. for example my quadriceps needs 2 weeks for full recovering and during this period it gets stronger. It really depends on muscle group
