Serious reply time OP. I had 3 wisdom teeth out back in January, and in general I've had an insane amount of dental work. One wisdom tooth didn't need to be removed because the molar next to it was pulled long ago, and the wisdom tooth came in just fine and replaced it. Anyway, for me the pain lasted 2 fucking weeks. And that's not unusual. On the first day, it's ESSENTIAL to not go without gauze in your mouth until the bleeding has completely stopped. My doctors were fucking stupid and didn't tell me this, so I took the gauze out while the bleeding was still going a little and it was probably the reason it took so long (although I never got dry socket.) Also, for the poster who said they were going to get the proceedure, when I had it they gave me like 20 different drugs to "consciously sedate" me. I mean, I asked them if I would be sedated and they said I would, but they left out the CONSCIOUS part. I was awake the whole time and I swear to god I remember the whole thing. Fucking sucked. Anyway, another major protip: rinse your mouth out with hydrogen peroxide. It tastes like shit, so mix a capful into some water to dilute it a little. I had trouble with healing because I was just using salt water, but when I switched to that instead (by the doctor's instructions) it helped a lot. Stuff's easy to buy in any store. I had a steady diet of tapioca (hey I love that stuff) yogurt and soup for the whole 2 weeks. And I agree with not taking vicodin until you need it. On the first day, the Novocain should still be going for a long time anyway. Thing is, I ended up taking so much vicodin that I had to go back to the doctor and demand percocet cause vicodin didn't work anymore for pain-killing. And mind you, vicodin never altered my mind or perceptions anyway. No tripping at all. So I seriously was taking it for it's pain-killing.
