Hey /fit/,

Fat fuck here. I've lost 12 pounds over the past couple months using a stationary bike for cardio (combined with lifting). Now that I'm moving back to SoCal I'm looking to buy an actual road bike.

Suggest bikes that would work well for me (not crumple under my fat ass), and would last a few years. I'm looking to spend around $300.

Thanks.

This is /fit/, not /bike/, or /shopping network/.

and even less /sp/ or /n/, for god's sake

I doubt anyone in /sp/ actually does any kind of sporting. To busy managing their fantasy football leagues.

And /n/ spends their days masturbating to trains.

Fuck me. Who was I to think that anyone in /fit/ actually used a bike to get fit.

All fit does is HIIT, SQAUTZ, and 5x5.

i think the point was that it doesn't matter what the model of bike is .. also see>>293987

I weigh 265 lbs. At 6'4" I'd love to be 200 pounds..

You can't buy a decent bike for $300. I guarantee it will fall apart within 2 months.

just go on craigslist and look for a fixie or single speed.

OP i just searched on google for a few mins and cant find any weight limits for any road bikes, only some specialist triathlon/speed circuit bikes seemed to have any. but still i'd ask just in case. gl.

0/10

Fixie riders are pretentious assholes.
DO NOT BUY A FIXIE OP.

>DO NOT BUY A FIXIE OP.

Agreed. Since you're a big guy, OP, my advice is that you go for a cyclocross bike. They're built tough and have almost the same geometry as a road bike. The main difference is that they're designed to handle more abuse than road bikes and that their frames have enough clearance for knobby tires.

You may need to spend more than $300, but maybe not. If you can get a steel frame (instead of aluminum), it will be worth the extra cash.

alu ones are far more expensive.. :S

craigslist.

Fixie riders wear monocles and pocket watches, listen to obscure vinyl music on valve amplifiers and generally promote all outdated/inferior forms of technology, whatever they may be. Do not listen to them.

So what does /fit/ think of

Chopper style Cruisers

and..

Bicycles where someone reclines and sticks his feet in front to pedal.

Is there some god to shit tiers amongst bicycles? Hierarchy? Classes?

>>294096
Recumbents and choppers are great bikes if your goal is to look like an idiot.

>>294099

So what's left? Mountain, BMX and racing bikes? Are these the only ones that won't make me look like an idiot?
>> Anonymous
>>294103
get a cyclocross then
>> Anonymous
>>294105

So riding on a cyclo-cross won't make me look like an idiot that I otherwise would while riding the other 6-7 types of bicycles?

What about color? What color should I get it in that doesn't make me look like an idiot? I would like non-idiotic colors as per suggestion...

And should I wear a biking helmet or no? What types of biking helmets wouldn't make me look like an idiot?

Also, how high should I set my seat so that it's in an non-idiotic-appearing look?

As far as the broad categories are concerned, stick with mountain and road bikes for fitness.

If you're set on a mountain bike, don't bother with tons of suspension, unless you'll actually be doing a lot of real mountain biking.

If you're set on a road bike, don't bother with carbon frames, unless you're planning on racing.

I don't know anything about mountain bike components, so I'll let someone else comment on that. But for the road/city, Shimano 105 is your best bet for awesome price/quality ratio in road bike components.

>So riding on a cyclo-cross won't make me look like an idiot

No. Most cyclists aren't really aware of the difference between a road bike and a cyclocross bike.

>What about color?

Don't be a faggot.

>And should I wear a biking helmet or no?

Yes, goddamn it. Wear a helmet.

>how high should I set my seat

Get the bike shop to set it up for you.

And finally, stop being a wuss about how you look on the thing. If you get fit enough and fast enough, most people will only see your ass as you leave them in the dust.
