Dear /fit/,

Aren't energy drinks completely useless, disregarding caffeine. If I wanted energy for a maximum performance activity lasting an hour and I didn't want to run out of energy before it was over couldn't I accomplish this by adding lots of sugar into a juice of my choice and drinking that a little before and during the activity? How fast does the energy contained in sugar get stored - is it possible to exercise vigorously enough to end up having used up all those "empty calories"?
