I've been told that if you've ever had a body fat of 20%+ you can never get a 6 pack.

Reasoning:
Fat cells multiply with weight gain but don't merge into one upon weight loss, they only get thinner. So when it comes to the time to get a 6 pack, all the cracks and crevices are full of flattened out fat cells forming a layer that stops visibility.

True or false?

That's not an actual six pack, sorry.

you stop gaining fat cells after you turn 4 years old

from then on they're just expanding and contracting

True. But if someone punches you in the stomach your fat will just ripple out again and you will lose your six pack of fat.

Fat cells do not work that way.

More like skin cells multiply with weight gain but don't merge upon weight loss. That loose pooch of skin is more of a threat to your six pack than magical fat cells.

False.

Whoever told you this horseshit is a complete fucking dumbass. Adipose tissue doesn't magically change at 20% BF. It's stored energy, plain and simple. Once you burn it as fuel, the cells break down and disappear, they don't stay as 'thin flattened out cells'. Punch that donkey for me who's been feeding you this 'logic'.
