Does /fit/ do the press?
Yes
I started the stronglift thing today, and I see that for workout b I'm going to have to do this shit.Isn't it bad to lock your elbows and knees?and is it acceptable for me to that the bar off the rack instead of power cleaning it up?I really lack the coordination to do that I think.
>>405302NoYes
>>405310How can it not be bad to direct all this stress on the locked joints? Why isn't the exercise considered as good if your not hyperextending?
no. i don't want to break my arms, because I'm strong enough that I can do a ridiculous amount of weight and wouldn't be satisfied unless I was going all out, at which point it becomes dangerous.
I find it really fun doing it, cause my gym is small and everyone does curlz. So its kinda like 'look at me'.
>>405322>>405322>>405322
>>405320Because your joints are resting on top of each other, not grinding togetherHyperextension refers to a position of the back. You don't need to fear locking out.
>>405329Ah, thanks.I'll probably be starting with pussy weight anyways.Shit looks awkward, and my shoulders ain't shit.It is a shoulder exercise right?
>>405349Yea, targets the whole shoulder. Make sure you keep your back as vertical as possible and the bar path a straight line going up, or else it will just become a standing inclined bench press
>>405354Ok, so back straight, abs tight, glutes clenched, chin tucked into my chest... umm, elbows infront of bar...?
>>405354>standing inclined bench press
if your talking about push pressthen you have to either power clean or clean it up to that level and then pressnot its not bad to lock joints upit could be dangerous if u didntcos the weight will dislocate your shoulder
>>405357Clean position for a jerk, you don't need it unless you just cleaned it, imo. I'm not the guy who you asked though
>>405376I don't want to jerk, I do enough of that on my spare time.I'm going to unrack that shit because there is no way I'm power cleaning anything just yet.
i do overhead presses. not like that picture though
Yep, the OHP is my favorite upper body exercise by far.Although, my grip is much narrower than the picture shown.
>>405410Is it a full body exercise if your counting all the stabilizers involved?
>>405410he is not doing press per se. he's doing accessory work for the snatch. could be a power snatch, could be a snatch grip press, could be stretching.
>>405412You could probably stretch it that far. You'd use more of them in it than the Bench Press, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it "full body".
when doing over head presses do any of you kinda jerk it up? (HAHA JERK IT UP HAHAA, k) i mean that you kinda jump up to get it over your head? thats the way I kind of do it. not literally jumping but i try bring my hips into pushing it over head.
>>405417http://stronglifts.com/how-to-overhead-press-with-correct-technique/he apparently is, and how is this little looking dude pressing so much?!
I like Push Presses as much as SQUATZ.Makes me feel like an 8 foot tall spartan with a 12" dick. The day I lift my body weight over my head I'll orgasm on the spot. I'm at 135 right now and I weigh 200.
>>405430Or even this guy?!Is this what starting strength is about, being strong as a bear and looking normal?I should quit the shit now if that is the case... I want to looked jacked as well.
>>405434Don't be silly that only applies to Asians.
>>405437Its weird that he only chose asians in his press section, but is this 5x5 program thing purely about strength or is it a good way to bulk a bit?I do 3x10 usually.
if you saw him in real life i bet youd say he is jacked
>>4054415x5 is a bit of both with the focus being on strength.
>>405441Gaining muscle is about time under tension.so 3x10 if they are all working sets and not warm up sets is like 60 seconds under tension if a rep takes 2 seconds.10x3 would have the same muscle building potential.Try to keep it at 25 working reps per exercise if you want size and strength.
>>405442I'm not insulting the guy, I'm sure anyone of these people could pop my head like a grape... But from these limited pictures they just look fit, better then average... Yet it seems to me like are pressing over 400lbs.So I am a bit underwhelmed by their physique, then again these dudes are probably all natural and I've just been oversaturated with images of guys on roids.
>>405445>>405456so therefore is i'm doing 5x5, and being able to push much more weight then I would doing 3x10... I will get better size gains?
>>405430this is an olympic lift. it's called the split jerk and it finishes the clean and jerk exercise. the lifter jumps the weight up and then ducks under it in order to lift the heaviest of weights. you need a very strong core to do this.a press is exactly that. the weight is pressed out by the arms only. no jumping.
>>405463Yup.Just remember the around 25 rule.
>>405459these are olympic lifters. low reps, huge weights, no excess size. you get 82kg guys squatting 330kg ass to ground. that kind of thing.and yes they are all on steroids. welcome to the olympics.
>>405429can someone answer this? =]
>>405469I thought the low reps and huge weight would make them bulk up?
>>405470see>>405464lrn2read
>>405471Not necessarily.Your muscles can get way more efficient (stronger) without getting bigger. To get as strong as possible requires both.
>>405471>>405475low reps, large weight and long rests is cns intensive. you get stronger through myofibular hypertrophy (speeling lol) and improved muscular co-ordination. co-ordination is 75% of strength if you ask me.
>>405475>>405479Oh yah the olympic lifters are encouraged to be smallfucks since they are judge according to weight...jesus fucking christ though... this is why you don't start fights.i'd love to see some random muscle headed guidos pic a fight with on of these more modest sized guys.
>>406020woah woah buddy, once I'm finished fucking your bitch I'll show these lil cunts what real muscles can do.
i do
This shit is useless, Arnold Press is superior
You guys keep posting odd Oly lifters. Most of them at 105 and below do pretty much look the part, except their arms aren't usually as developed as you're used to on BBers
>>406199OP here, I got all the pictures from the same source. The stronglifts page on how to perform overhead presses.>>405430
