Time to start! Anonymous
I'm 6'1, 235 pounds, and 24 years old. My gut would make you run for cover.

When I hit my first semester in college and started working, seemed like I had less time, and without a sport I didn't really run or life weights anymore. As time went on, I just became more and more sedentary. Also, I have a tendency to eat when I'm bored, and am looking for ways to fix that. Also, not considering a gym membership until I can prove that I'll stick with this and not throw away money.

I want to start running 7 days a week. It seems like most that I've read, here and in other places, suggests that 3-4 days a week is a fairly good place to start. Honestly, I don't think the exercise will be the problem, so I wanted to start aggressively. Every other day I'll do some sit-ups, pushups, wallsits, and some calf raises so I get a little bit of a workout there. I'll track my progress and try to beat my goals.

Next, I've decided I'm going to make a run at the 5-6 meals a day instead of 3 larger ones (some of which I missed, and then I'd snack and/or overeat). I've done a lot of researching regarding the kinds of foods you should include in every meal, so I think I've got a good idea of what I need to do there. I'm hoping that eating smaller, regularly spaced meals will solve both the overeating and the snacking.

If anybody in /fit/ has some suggestions for me, I'm more than willing to hear about them. Any links or information you can provide is welcome.

Wish me luck (and good luck to anybody else trying the same thing)!

tl;dr
just work out when you are bored instead of shoving food into your fat face. also not very good to run 7 days a week, run 3 days a week for 40 mins(no longer then 40 mins because it won't help) 4 days a week do cross training like power lifting.

Bump. Wondering if anybody has anything to add or information to share. TY!

If you are not physically capable of running (decimated my knees in football back in high school) would the 40 mins 3 times a week apply to walking or would it be beneficial to do it more than that?

well it depends on how long you would be able to run for.

when it comes to the difference between running and walking a mile is a mile is a mile. You'll burn the same amount of calories running as you would walking distance wise, it's just that you won't be able to cover as much ground as when you run.

What the fuck are you stupid?

Someone sprinting a mile, and someone walking a mile is a matter of oh I don't know, 600 fucking calories burned?

Idiot.

Try an elliptical machine or see if your knee can handle rowing.
