recently ive wandered into the weightlifting world, not hxc or anything. just to look good, not fuckin get huge and compete.

so at the gym i ran into this ripped guy, talkin about doing a new way to lift, doing low-ish weight "core" lifts that are sposed to be great for strength and tone and size and shit. he mentioned that doing high weight low rep lifts on certain muscles can cause extreme joint and muscle problems as you age.

whats the argument between, like, arnold era lifting vs. this new thing this guy's talking about?

he's talking shit. the body wont adapt and grow unless you put it under stress it cant handle properly. heavy weights, or go the fuck home and eat ice-cream
>> Anonymous
OP: he said like, you had to do these completely new exercises/motions to isolate certain muscles. and since your stressing isolated muscles instead of groups of muscles, hence the lower weights. like, pussy weights arent gonna do jack, but this guy said specifically not to do extreme heavyweights.

i mean, i dunno who the fuck is right here.

fuck that shit, mountainous heavy bone crushing weights ftw. train epic.

Sounds like he's talking about the mythical SQUATZ and DEADLIFTZ that seems to be so invogue nowadays.

if he was on a bosu ball or any balance shit he need sto be smacked in the mouth. that shit i only good for rehabbing ankle injuries, in any other situation it actually makes you weaker

Def build your routine around big, compound lifts like squat, deadlift, benchpress, and overhead press. None of that sissy shit. You can't get big doing that.

Bah. None of you fuckheads know what you're talking about. Programs that use compound lifts as their basis are for beginners and those trying to build strength. Strength does not equal size.

Look up myofibrillar hypertrophy and hyperplasia versus sarcoplasmic hypertrophy. They are two completely different things. That's why they call the "bodybuilding split" 3 or 4x12 isolation exercises using granny weights versus doing 3x5 or even 1x6 using heavy ass weights.

People can have huge muscles without having the CNS training or sarcoplasmic hypertrophy that makes them strong. Otherwise pro bodybuilders would dominate sport weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman, football, etc.

Right...but this guy is a beginner.

Still, idiots like>>203442
spouting bullshit are giving people the wrong idea. Lots of bodybuilders put up absolutely pathetic numbers compared to powerlifters or olympic lifters who are much smaller than them. Of course, there are exceptions, but he's making generalized statements that are utter bullshit.

It seemed to me he was proposing compound lifts. Are you saying that's a good or a bad thing? I'll like to see the reasoning

I wouldn't call it bullshit. He's suggesting a strength based routine. Strength does come before size, but if you continue lifting heavier and heavier weights, you can't say that you won't get bigger and denser as a result.

For what the op wants, it makes sense to start with compound lifts to build a base level of strength, then switch to more isolation exercises if he wants to be more of a body builder.
