Hi /fit/

I need a really fast, practically instant, way to get my blood pressure down for a pre-employment medical. I'm not looking for a permanment solution from you guys just a temporary one. I am already on blood pressure meds and have been drinking lots of water plus excersising. My blood pressure usually is normal now but whenever I get nervous it sky rockets, and unfortunately doctors make me nervous for some reason.

Do any of you know a way I might be able to do this? I can't take any crazy drugs because I don't want them to show up on the drug test I have to do aswell. I am willing to do drastic things though. I really need this job.

Lower your BP by relaxing. Go into the appointment as relaxed as can be, perhaps by meditating, or just by taking deeper breaths.

Or take a bit of heroin, weed or alcohol.

You may have whitecoat hypertension. You'll have to tell me the numbers though. Whitecoat HTN manifests only in an elevated systolic (top number) BP. There is really no way around this, as it is do to a fear of doctors. If you discuss this with the professional they should understand. HTH

Donate blood once, then borrow a friend's ID and donate blood again. Nothing like anemia to lower blood pressure.

whitecoat hypertension

it's not real hypertension so if your dr tells your employer then it won't matter as it's not real hypertension any more than a high bp after playing 30 mins of soccer is real hypertension

Make sure you sit for 5 minutes before the doc takes your blood pressure. Try and just stay relaxed. Tell him that you know that you have white coat hypertension and they will document it. You should take some readings at home and show them to the doctor so they can document it. I see far too many patients on lots of BP meds because they have white coat HTN and the doc just assumes they have primary HTN.

If you don't already have an automatic home blood pressure monitor I suggest you invest in one.

Don't eat for three days.

You'll practically be catatonic.

Wear a blindfold so that you don't see the doctor.
