For the past few years, I basically ate nothing and exercised very little. I am 5'9 and weigh 120 but I have a flabby stomach. By searching the intertubes, I believe my body is in starvation mode because I am only eating like 1000 calories a day. If I start eating better with a lot of protein plus lifting and cardio, will my body get our of starvation mode and return normal? I want to bulk up but lose my fat stomach. Thanks!

Yes, do exactly what Venuto instructs. By contrast, at first, you'll feel bloated and you'll look in the mirror and be like wtf because you'll imagine yourself fatter--in reality, that's supposed to be there to store the water weight, for your own good, and you need to slim down the bodyfat with that in place--eventually it'll turn into a 6pack if you stick with it.

Well, that's the likely outcome of that course of action, yes. The alternatives are to either continue on your path of being a ghost, or die, neither of which are particularly good. I would say it's worth the effort on your part.

I'm not sure about the whole starvation thing but I am sure that the change won't hurt.

I read about this somewhere. If you eat very little calories per day your body burns very little calories. If you eat a lot of calories your body burns a lot of calories. That's why diets don't work.
