never buy a product which starts with a lowercase 'i' followed by an uppercase letter.

"(Longest battery life can last up to 1 year if you check your pulse daily)"

Sounds like it's not one that constantly monitors your heartrate, you have to put your fingers from your other hand onto a sensor probably. Which is a pain if you're running and your heartrate is up. Better to get one from a running shop with a chest strap mounted sensor that transmits and monitors your rate continuously

How much do they cost and do they also monitor calories? What I'm mainly interested in, is measuring heart rate, as this device merely seems to do a valid way of calculating expended calories?

Would near enough be good enough for this purpose?

Polar, which is the world leader in heart rate monitor watches (they own a shitton of patents on it, etc.), makes a model that is sub-$100 (maybe 70?).

I own the 200sd, which also has a footpod for measuring distance (it's highly accurate)

chest strap is essential for HR monitoring

go polar, buddy
