/fit/, i've been weightlifting on and off for about 2-3 years but im also pretty overweight. though i've gained alot of strength, i've been doing little to no cardio so obviously i havent been losing weight. i've decided that i wanna put off weights for a bit and start doing more cardio and get my weight down to a healthy level (im a bit over 300lbs now). so should i weight lift AND do cardio or just cardio alone? (im thinking cutting off a good 50-60lbs and then hitting the weights again)

ill probably lose alot of my muscle if i stick to cardio only, but i dont mind... i just wanna trim off all this fat. i guess lifting hard and getting swole was just a highschool trend, but i dont want that anymore... i just wanna be in shape.

tl;dr - should i lift and cardio to lose weight? or cardio first, lose weight and then both?

why can't you answer this question yourself?

lift weights regularly to maintain your muscle and work your ass off to lose the fat at the same time.

If you've seriously been lifting for 2-3 years and don't know how to cut/bulk, than you've just been wasting your time. The fact that your seriously considering stop hitting weights shows it...

i used to weightift in highschool to get strong for football and such. but after highschool i started getting fat again. i know i should lift and cardio, but its getting kind of embarrassing in the weight room when everyone is always staring at me..

fine I'll give you a serious answer this time. You should keep lifting as heavy as you can maintain. Don't pussy out and go be a fagget cardio bunny. I'd advice you just bike(7 days a week...ya rly), since you are heavy it should be easier on your knees. Your goal isn't going to be met in a gym, but in the kitchen. What are you currently eating on a daily/weekly basis? Your diet is the most important thing for weightlifting no matter what your goals are.

my usual breakfast is a bowl of cheerios with skim milk. maybe once or twice ill have 2-3 scrambled eggs. lunch is usually a chicken sandwich with lettuce, onions and green peppers. dinner is various, sometimes ill have a chicken breast with veggies, sometimes fries, sometimes a chicken wrap. and various snacks throughout the day... watermelon, cookies, cheese sticks, nuts, carrots and that kind of stuff.

i know my diet is shit, but im not sure what i should be eating to maintain muscle and lose weight.

and instead of biking, couldnt i jog on the treadmill? i could just hit tread and then run on the track they have inside the gym. better if i do something i like, right?

wtf? how many cookies and shit are you eating?

That doesn't look like a fat inducing meal plan. There's something youre not telling us.

>Cookies
>Cheese Sticks
>Nuts

An excessive amount of any of these three will add HUEG CALORIES. Cheese is not much better for you than eating butter, nuts are very calorie-rich, and cookies... Don't get me started on cookies...

ah ic, didnt know that. must be cause i can eat whatever and not have to worry. looks like ill be avoiding cheese from now on.

i forgot to mention alcohol. i go drinking maybe once or twice a week. and will have a 6 pack to myself one night a week. been doing the 6 pack thing for about a year. im not sure how many calories alcohol can add, but i try to stay away from mixed drinks.

pretty sure cheese is fine, just don't eat it as a snack. You can include it into meals just don't go overboard.

OP here, so what should i be eating and how much should i be eating to maintain muscle and lose fat?
>> Anonymous
and to answer the questions about my diet, i've been maintaining this weight for nearly a year now eating that stuff. i guess the reason why my weight hasnt gone down is because i dont do cardio.

hard liquor is fine, as long as you don't drink beer. beer has a lot of calories, and should be avoided. drink as much hard liquor as you want, though, without worry.

there's no calories in hard liquor

kill yourself.

OP... for the love of god don't fucking take words anyone says here as must do. Most of the ppl here are don't know shit and are just stating their opinion(myself included). If you want to lose your weight then its easy. You'll have to diet like you've never done before. Keeping hitting heavy ass weight. Don't let the intensity of your program diminish. Stop snacking! Dont just grab shit though out the day and eat it for the hell of it. Your going to have to do some work for yourself on this. Foods to consider are

Carb side - which you will want to limit completely or just eat once during breakfast.

oats, grits, your cheerios are fine as long as its one of the varieties that don't have a shitload of sugar, white potatoes, yams, rice it doesn't matter if its white or brown.

Protiens
lean red meat(google it if you don't know what cuts), salmon(in moderation), tuna, chicken, turkey, bison

Fats
Nuts, olive oil, hmm mind is blank

Veggies
try hard to only eat dark green

Probably one of the hardest things to do is stop drinking. You'll be surprised at how much that effects your overall fitness. I think you've been half assing it the entire time you've worked out. Stop wanting to be spoon fed. Go do some research, find a plan you can stick to and obtain your goals. Or keep crying on the internet about how you don't know how to do shit.
