what is a good number of pushups to be able to do in 60 seconds?? I can do 65.
>> Anonymous
op here, i was doing the pushups really fast but still trying to do pretty good ones.

i can do 70 pushups, with a girl dressed in pink on my back. hey whered you get that photo?
>> Anonymous
Doesn't count if your back wasn't straight, your arms didn't form 90 degree angles and your thumbs were positioned below your pecs while on the ground.

If you did do this, good job.

the picture is from google. Google pushups, its on the first page.

OMG, you're on google!

Why do you care how fast you can do push-ups?

1. Push-ups should only be used as a warmup
2. Exercises should be done slowly and effectively, not fast.

If you can do 60 push ups in 60 seconds than you probably aren't doing them properly.

Not true. Navy here.
When we do our PRT, we do them as fast as possible because it minimizes how much time you spend per pushup working against gravity. Plus, we are doing as many as possible in 2 minutes, so cranking them out fast is crucial.

Unless the DI is cracking the whip over your perfect form, faster is better.

1 per second is about right for the pacing while doing them with fairly good form.

To do a proper pushup your chest should move about 35 cm give or take. Unless you are grabbing onto something only gravity will pull you down. It takes about .8 seconds for you to fall this height.

>it minimizes how much time you spend per pushup working against gravity
It's actually more attributed to utilizing the muscle's elastic capability; since resting at the bottom/going slowly completely destroys that. That property is commonly used both to increase maximum output (chambering), or efficiency (jogging).

I had link to a bunch of information on it, but I don't feel like looking for it at the moment.

A good average push-up count in a minute for someone who hasn't done them in a while is around 45-50. As long as you're maintaining proper form go as fast as you want. The speed you go is up to you. You should start out doing them slowly, so you know the right form and have it built into your head. Then just gradually increase the speed. You'll be doin 80 push-ups in a minute in no time. But remember, your arms have to break a 90 degree angle and back has to be straight (no seal backing), and you cannot remove your hands/feet from the ground. Least that's what the Army says.

Not possible if you keep proper form.

O rly douche bag? Cause I've done it. Judged by the Army, not my fault you're weak

You're doing them wrong then.

WOW you're wack. But I guess there's no point in arguing with someone who's made up their mind, facts aside.

Fact: You need to move your chest around 35cm. Give or take a bit.
Fact: Only gravity will pull you down.
Fact: It takes about .8 seconds for this to happen.
What now?

Fact: You don't. Know. Anything.

Are you fucking serious? I dropped a small object just now from approximately 7-8 feet, and that took noticeably less than a full second to hit the ground.

I don't know where the fuck you're getting your numbers, but it takes less than half a second to do a pushup with good form.

I've done 100 using something approximately the size of my fist on the ground for my chest to hit each time to verify form, along with someone watching to make sure I was wasn't unknowingly bending my back or anything. 60/100 =.6 seconds. I took a short break in the middle, too.

There's absolutely no way someone could do 100 proper push ups in 60 seconds.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=6bleiB13I2E
Video of a more or less proper push up.

I have done thousands of push ups, I have thrown up while doing them and I have watched numerous grown men practically cry while being forced to do them. I have also mocked many assholes who did not do them properly and thought they were tough shit. It is fairly unnatural that someone could do 30 push ups in 60 seconds without any prior physical training and I have met few people capable of doing 60. For reference the SEAL minimum is 42 in 2 minutes and the recommended goal to shoot for is 100 in 2 minutes.

If you are doing push ups like a bitch than sure count however many you want, I could do 100 bitch push ups in a minute too and I think a lot of people could. That won't make you any more physically fit but it certainly will demonstrate that you are a massive faggot.

It all depends on your definition of a "proper" pushup. The definition I was given to conform to for that number was back straight, hands slightly wider than shoulders, head up, chest approx. fist distance off of the ground on the down portion, arms straight out on the up portion. I complied, and if you have complaints, bitch about the guidelines, not me.

Arguing about chest to floor vs ~90 degrees is like arguing which martial art is the best. I personally don't like chest to floor because my right shoulder is a little weird.

Besides, the guy in your video is:
1 - taking his sweet time in order to demonstrate _his_ idea of proper form
2 - contradicting himself - he said to keep your hands at shoulder width, and clearly they are further than that.

This definition is also used by the army, the marines, the navy, and the coast guard, btw.

In Tae Kwon Do, we HAVE to do 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 jumping jacks in three minutes. So yeah. Not necessarily 100 pushups in 60 seconds, but pretty damn close.

Don't tell me it's impossible.

How about going for quality instead of quantity? I do pushups slowly and hold when I am down before going back up. They are way more hardcore.

>How about going for quality instead of quantity
It's a matter of muscle types. Doing them slowly may very well yeild higher endurance fast twitch (type IIa), but fast ones, despite their ugliness, help develop elasticty utilization ability and explosive (type IIb) muscle to a point.

It definitely depends on your fitness goals.

Proper push-up? back straight, arms at a 90 degree angle. If that's not how you do it, you're doing fucking bitch push ups.
