I live near some steep hills. Is walking up and down hills better exercise than flat, or does the downhill cancel out the uphill?

And how does it compare to jogginf for the same distance?

does not

if you're walking, hilly is better than flat; you use one set of muscles to power up the hill, and another set to control yourself on the downhill. my philosophy is that for the best yield, increase your intensity. so i believe jogging will do you much better than walking, and the same thing applied for hilly vs flat.
