Lifeguard here,
I've spent alot of summers lifeguarding now, and i'll tell you if you wear sunglasses alot outside, you >will< get the Racoon Tan (Strip around the eyes staying white).
You really have 4 options if you want to get rid of it: 1) Don't wear sunglasses outside for a while until the pigments around your eyes have a chance to get at least a little darker to hopefully blend-in 2) Wait 'til Winter comes and you're (maybe?) indoors alot - many people (including me) with summer tans from being outside get lighter and lighter as winter goes on. 3) Use that rub-on tan stuff around your eyes and temples, although i can't recommend that stuff (Fake Tanning items always turned me off, especially the "Orange" tan many college-age people get from Tanning Beds) 4) Paint half of your whole body blue. Many less people will now notice your racoon tan.
On the Tan vs Not-Tan section, i'll say skin color doesn't affect my judgement of a person too much (i've had my share of fair and dark girlfriends), but lately i've met a couple half-lebanese girls that make me drool over the tanned ones (mmmm)
