hay /fit/,

On the health side of the board, I think I may have a cavity. There's a really small and thin black line running down one of my teeth (second from back, right bottom side), down a groove on the side. What's the likelihood this is a cavity? Also going to my dentist in 3 hours so that problem's covered.

just a small thing if its a cavity get it fixed before it gets bad, shouldn be a problem

I think i also have a cavity, but it is not black, more deep brownish.

When i touch exactly that area, it hurts.

Shit, now i touched it more and it seems the cravitiy hit the nerve (on the side).

I don't want to get drilled.
It will surerly hurt like hell.

I've got one myself, never had to have the drill used before so I'm not looking forward to when I'll have to if I have to.
Not sure when I'm going to the dentist though, at this rate probably a couple of months.

ive had 12 cavities filled in my lifetime. it's not painful or anything, if it hurts just demand more novocain. the worst part of it all is having a numb lip for a few hours really

Oh, i thought that you won't get any narcosis substances.

Then of course i will demand narcosis substances, unless i am a sadist and enjoinig pain....oh wait.

When i brush my teeth i want to feel the pain of the cavity hitting my nerves.

But drilling it would be another dimension of pain i think.

if the cavity isn't very deep, they won't need to drill all the way down so they might not give you anything to numb it.. but it sounds like yours is, and you can have all the MASSIVE NEEDLES IN YOUR MOUTH that you want!

if it hurts it probably is a cavity, but otherwise dark spots aren't necessarily cavities

prety much 3/4 of my teeth are plastic because i had no real dental care up until i was 20. My dentist numbs me up good as he doesn't like his patients screaming and twitching, he always makes sure i'm not in pain.
Probably is a cavity though.

OP here: How long does it take to fix a cavity, depending on length? I'm going in for a checkup today and I was wondering how much longer it'll be.

I would rather prefer one narcostic needle in my mouth and pain for a about 1 second (when the doctor injects it) then facing constant pain.

But my cavity isn't very deep, it is just above the teethridge and not on the top of my teeth.

Well anyways, since i am a CHICKEN, i will demand something in advance.

Shit sucks.
After touching around at the cavity i now feel a steady uneasyness, not pain yet.

not long at all I think I had 2 or 3 filled in less than 4 minutes.

sorry 40* minutes

It's done in about 30 minutes. It's a very basic dental procedure. I'd compare it to going to a physician for a few shots and a basic physical...nothing difficult for them.

If you have like fucking eight cavities or something, it'll obviously take a while, though.

Keep in mind that it's pretty common to be able to "brush out" small cavities if you increase the length of your brushing and mouthwashing. Make sure you're using tooth care products with a good amount of fluoride in them and avoid shit that claims to whiten your teeth...it often damages your enamel. I've had two cavities in my life, both at the same time, both caught fairly early, and my dentist just told me to brush longer per session and add a third brushing session in the middle of the day. Low and behold, I saw him again in a month and both cavities had repaired themselves.

oh wow, didn't know the teeth can heal themselves.

I have a cavity too, how do I get rid of it? Brushing is doing nothing right now but it isn't too deep. Just looks a little darker than the OP pic.
>> Anonymous
They don't repair them selves. He's a troll.

Not a troll. No, they don't repair themselves, fluoride just aids in restoring deteriorating enamel. Thus, if you have a forming cavity or a very small one, you can reverse it with enough care. It's proven and it's what a lot of dentists recommend to patients with small cavities instead of getting it filled.

So, yeah, get educated before calling me a troll. Oh, wait, I'm asking someone on /fit/ to get educated...

Does it hurt?

>>140959
Not in the slightest.
>> Anonymous
>>140967
Did you "touch" it?
If you don't feel any pain then you don't have to worry to much unless the cavtiy is getting bigger.

>>140972
The cavity is getting bigger but it doesn't hurt when I jab at it. Also related: I have braces but havent had them checked in a year, is everything going to be ok?

As long as you're not a complete pussy, with modern drugs dental care is a walk in the park unless the dentist is incompetent and doesn't anesthetize properly. And if you are a complete pussy just ask them to drug you more.
>> Anonymous
>>140987
What about he/she doesn't anesthetize at all....?
>> Anonymous
>>140951
this is true
demineralized enamel can remineralize as long as it's structure is intact
once it collapses the cavity needs a filling

Then you have a really shitty dentist.
