Alright /fit/, I was looking into buying some protein powder and whenever I walk into the GNC that's near me I can't decide on which brand/type of mix to buy. What do you suggest I buy? I previously owned a mix with the GNC label on it but I don't know if I should get the same kind again.

protip: never buy anything from gnc.

That's pretty much what everyone gets.

OP, would you like a thick or smooth consistency, and what flavor do you like?
>> Anonymous
>>381083

vanilla and I like to make it as close to a smoothie as possible

the people there will lie to sell you anything.
they dont know what they are talking about.
everything is overpriced, especially compared to the internet

Then I do infact recommend the Optimum nutrition 100% I use their vanilla and its smooth as silk

...but (and lord knows i hate playing the devil's advocate here...)

GNC does have significant pluses
1 you can return ANYTHING you buy after to try it out. so no more wasted $ on taste, results, digestion issues, etc.
go there like a kid in the candy store, try out all different types till you find one you like

2 GNC brand, while 'not as sexy' as other brands, at least can 3rd party guarantee TRUTH IN LABELING and PURITY, considering that in random samplings done by nutrition journals, 60-75% of all protein supps are lies and actually contain dangerous chemicals (that same nitrogenous substance the chinks used) or just 'rice filler/soy'

---> nothing on the interbutts can do either of those things.

tl dr: i'll take my boring GNC 100% concentrate that actually IS 100% whey over the A. cheaper, but not actually whey or B. Sexier...but not actually supermajic whey-awesome ISOLATE BOMB

also, as a GNC assistant manager back during college... i can tell you this. we dont give a shit if you do the try and buys, in fact, it was ENCOURAGED! because the more things you purchase (even if return) the more commission we got, and we'd take home whatever you returned. i never paid for a fuckin thing for the closet full of exotic supplements i got (that i would never purchase on my own)

Why do you not like Cressey? I saw that in the other post
>> Anonymous
i recommend MASS XXX...its worked for me so far

Is there one of these that's just protein and doesn't have five million fucking vitamin supplements in it? I already take a multivitamin pill where I know WTF is in it and don't want to overdose myself with fat-soluble vitamins. Getting Vitamin D poisoning from my workout food isn't my idea of a good time.

there is much background to this, but simply, he is a peer, and as such, should so respect to the elders in our work (exerc. physiology), even though we are all 'like younger, smarter, and better, etc'. I show respect. He doesnt and has to 'earn his spurs' clawing and tearing with everyone who'd disagree with him (even w/decades more experience)

short and sweet. check out Cressey's internet attacks and nut flexing on Coach John Davies (i man i ultimately respect)

also, his solo products are a rip off. Literally the only thing i regret more was picking up SS 2nd ed. YES he knows his shit, YES i'll quote his work, YES i'm a 'corrective exercise guy' too, altho thats not how i pay my bills. his best stuff was in fact, done by Mike Roberston.

tl dr: sure, he's bright, he trains (IMO) in the most optimal level of theory and practice behind what he does....BUT he's an dick, has something to prove, and is a little circle jerker shuckster with all the other B-list T-nation celebs. note how they all give glowing reviews to each other's products? it reminds me of the bullshit NSCA S&C journal where the author of one article peer reviews the author who is peer review him (conflict of interest)

Dude sounds like a prick, John Davies is the fucking bossman. So I want to punch Cressey now. Can you punch him for me (and you)? It would be a win for /fit/, once everyone on T-nation hears what happened they'll all come here.

>>381303
wat?

how you mean?

the cressey - davies thing HAPPENED on t-nation. its the reason why davies stopped contributing AND publish articles. (and by proxy, cost the entire training world volumes of his knowledge and real experiences)

I have seen them both in small seminar settings. even as an 'academic' in the crowd, Davies inspired the shit out of me and hands on taught me all the proper technique for renegade style and the esoteric 'old school' KB lifts. hell, i did the long hair, beard, military wool hat as a nod to Davies.

Cressey...no, he's very smart...but no.

Whoah whoah whoah, we have a little mix up here. John Davies is awesome, I read his material. I was calling Cressey a prick, as I've been only vaguely aware of him and he seemed solid up until now. Now that I know he punked Davies, I don't like Cressey.

So let's create a plan where you punch Cressey in the face and bring glory to /fit/

dont wory bro, i understood you. we have been on the same boat this who conv
there is no misunderstanding

>>381331

Ok cool bro. So I'm thinking that at the next seminar you attend with him, you walk over to Cressey and chat him up for a while on some random topic. When he gets comfortable and doesn't suspect anything, POW!!! RIGHT IN THE KISSER.

How does that sound?

I'm fond of Syntha6 because they have a coffee flavored one. expensive, though. :(
