/fit/ please help, i'm fucking confused.

i don't eat much--my daily calorie intake probably doesn't exceed 1500 a day, and with minimal fat/saturated fat. i exercise, although very minimally--i lift weights 3 times a week and run maybe once a week).

so why the fuck do i have a protruding belly? it's been growing on me for the past few months, and i've never had it before. i'm skinny. i'm not fat at all. the only fat is around my belly, but it feels like my guts are expanded all of a sudden. like a beer belly... but i rarely drink.

what gives? what do i do?

It depends on what exactly is in those 1500 calories. You also need to run more, and do situps/crunches/rows/SQUATZ.

usually its just some hearty food.. like chicken or potatoes...

it's just so weird that the only area my body is expanding so much is my belly. i'm practically skin and bones elsewhere..

You're burning your muscle and probably adding fat is what it seems like. Your metabolism is probably slow enough as well as the fact that you're lifting weights that your body is partially digesting its own muscle rather than fat.

Don't eat potatoes, switch in salads for your meals and try some HIIT. Eat a few smaller meals during the day and don't eat too late at night, say after 7-8pm.

Simply, you're not eating enough. You need to eat more in the right combinations and you'll lose weight.

At 1500 calories a day, your body is likely going into starvation prevention mode. It's a leftover from the hunter-gatherer lifestyle where the body would slow down its metabolism in time of famine to survive between infrequent meals. You're body thinks you could starve to death soon, so its trying to preserve your life as long as it can.

In this mode, the body immediately stores calorie dense foods (starches, sugars and fats) choosing to burn non-vital ones first (proteins or muscle). This would allow our ancestors to survive at a slow pace until they could reach the next food source.

You're in that now, so carbs in those potatoes are getting stored as fat (for future use) while meats and vegetables are burned right away. You don't eat anything, but you look fat.

Believe it or not, you need to eat more to lose weight. You'll fool your metabolism into starting back up again to burn the rich calories sources.

Avoid whites: white rice, white flour, white sugar, white fat. Diets rich in lean meats, whole grains and green vegetables will give you energy while helping you lose weight.

Lifting 3 times a week is plenty, but you need energy to go hard. I dropped 15 lbs in 3 months with 60-90 minutes 3 times a week. But if you're lazy ....

the human body is meant to exercise, if you don't use it you will lose it. I'd try just doing about 20 to 30minutes of running, jump roping or some other form of exercise. crunches WILL not cause you to lose ur stomach can actually make you appear to have a bulging stomach. Running sprints for like 20 minutes or jump roping could do wonders for you if u do it like 4 or 5 times a week

OP here.

i agree i have to improve my diet. i'm not eating nearly as much as i should, and what i do eat isn't exactly the best, although not unhealthy. i almost never eat junk food, and i only have whole grain stuff at home. i DO however, need to eat more LEAN meat, and more veggies (my salad intake is minimal...)
