Sup /fit/, new here. I'm looking to get in shape for-- horrible, I know-- LARPing come spring. I realized today how out of shape I am.

It's not that I'm overweight. I'm 5'4" and maybe 115, my triceps could use toning and my legs are not super slim but fairly muscular and the rest of me is fine. But I've always hated cardio and even walking briskly for a while has me panting. This is bad when I need to be running around in the woods for a weekend.

This is what I have in mind for a workout regimen for the next month:
- dorm stairs, five flights, up and down as many times as I can handle, every day.
- laps of (hueg) campus on my bike, two times a day.
- lunges, calf raises and leg lifts 3 days a week.
- crunches, arm curls with weights, pushups other 3 days a week.

Does this sound like a decent general workout, /fit/? I just want to get more stamina and be generally healthier and more in shape (though toning my triceps also would be rad.) My big question is, when are the best times to work out? Before eating/after eating/morning/before bed? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you~

I think you have the right idea. If you never exercise, then your plan is pretty good. However, for your goal (running around in a LARP without getting winded), cardio is best. Yes, you loathe cardio, and that is why doing the stairs will be your best friend.

One of the hardest things about exercise is that when you start it sucks and you hate it. Once you start to get better it isn't as dreadful. Once you surprise yourself, you want to push harder. (At least for some people.)

I prefer eating before I work out.
1) I am uncomfortable working out on a full stomach.
2) Your body wants calories after exercise. Sure, if you ate then they're in their, but eating immediately after is just as good, if not better.
3) I prefer morning workouts, before breakfast. As a hardcore breakfast eater (as soon as I awoke), this was a tough adjustment. However, I found that sometimes I work late into the evening and then lack motivation/energy to workout, then shower, then eat. If I exercise first thing, then it's done and over with before I go about the rest of the day. (I'm also a morning person, so obviously it might be almost impossible for some people.)

tl;dr: your plan sounds good.

I have some hand weights, and while there are a couple of gyms on campus, they are populated mainly by jocks and people I consider terrifying as a small, alternative nerd girl. Maybe once I get a bit more into it I'll venture into an actual gym.
