Sometimes having your wisdom teeth removed is counter-productive and the dentist, for one reason or another, does not realise/care. If my mother had let her dentist take out her wisdom teeth when she was younger they found out later her whole jaw would have collapsed.

I hope you haven't got a shitty situation like that.

do you really need your wisdom teeth removed? I have 3 fully grown, and the last one coming in now hurt like a bitch a few months ago when it was breaking the surface- they are all out of line with the main teeth, but not overly crooked i don't think.

Centuries ago, people had bigger jaws, so we could easily accomodate wisdom teeth. Nowadays jaws are a lot smaller, and wisdom teeth aren't a necessity and often just get in the way.

you should only get them taken out if you get that symptoms for wisdom teeth coming in crooked or something if they come in fine just leave em in shit lol

Um, no. People were just far more likely to lose teeth centuries ago. Now that we have dental hygiene, wisdom teeth just end up crowding the mouth.

FYI: Humans are actually getting bigger. The average height of humans has risen by several inches based on anthropological evidence, though this may be due simply to food being more readily available.

Human skulls were bigger in the past, that isn't to say humans are smaller in general nowadays.

Of course they were more likely to lose teeth. So would we if there was less dental knowledge, but that still doesn't mean the teeth would grow in properly (upwards, without going into the third molar)- only about 20-30% of wisdom teeth do.
But it's also speculated that the extra teeth were needed for chewing when humans were in a more primeval stage.

Every time I go to my dentist's office, he tries to talk me into getting my wisdom teeth removed so I asked him why even consider it when they aren't giving me problems (mine are slightly crooked, but fine) to begin with:
it's hard to clean very well all the way back there for most people which = easy cavities. That's what I remember.
