Where I live (Ausfailia), you either buy a good bike from a reputable bike shop, or you head down to the local Target and get a bike which will either 1. fall apart from poor construction, or 2. fall apart because the combined cost of it is ~$100. Getting a bike here costs $500+, and I just see it that spending that much on top of a gym membership isn't really worth it. In the near future when my fitness isn't fucked, I will no doubt buy a good bike for transport instead of driving everywhere.
