Increase metabolism rate? Anonymous
Dear /fit/

I have a slow metabolism rate so I pack on the pounds easily. In order to attempt to stay thin I had to work out everyday for two hours and eat little. Is there any kind of food or exercise that will increase my metabolism rate?

Yeah, for serious, in order to keep your metabolism quick you've gotta eat often, but well. For example, a breakfast in the morning, then two to four hours later a handful of grapes for a snack, then lunch, then two snacks separated a few hours each, then dinner. The best thing to do to lose a bit more is to stop eating food about 3 hours before you go to sleep. eating a lot before going to bed doesn't metabolize very well. If you're a guy, to help lose fat and gain muscle you need to eat a lot of protein. There are these protein powder breakfast things that work rather well, or so my guy friends tell me.

Good luck!

Eat six smaller meals every day. Have at least one fruit or vegetable with every meal.
Weight lift 4 of 5 times per week, and do about 30 mins of cardio 5 days per week.

Whey protein.

1 gram protein for 1 kg or your body weight.
So I get around 70 grams of it daily.

Reasoning you'll keep your metabolism constantly working if you eat smaller portions more frequently.

I've been running track for two years, I take it very lightly on the off season. For weight lifting I just started last august so not much there. Male, 5.8, 175

Ok. I'm going to assume you have little muscle mass. One great way to increase your metabolic rate is to keep lifting and building up that muscle mass. Make sure you are doing as others here have suggested, and eating five or six smallish meals per day. Keep hydrated. To avoid leg joint damage but keep cardio fit, run on elliptical or circular trainers.

Or, take advantage of that slow metabolism to build a fuckton of muscle and become a powerlifter.

I don't understand all the hate against powdered proteins. I know at one point I tried to cut it out of my diet, and my recovery times shot up while my energy levels crashed.

I know this is purely anecdotal, but I just had a hard time ingesting enough "natural" protein, or even calories, to replace what was lost when I stopped taking whey.
