Hello, /fit/.
I'm 16, I have absolutely no muscle on me, and I have a bit of flab on my stomach, but not much. I'm still relatively skinny, but I think that's mainly because of the lack of muscle.
How should I start training?
I'm not that fit, either.

Pic unrelated, I'm not that fat.

OP here
I know them, I was just wondering if there was anything else for starting off that'd be more effective.

Well, I started around 5 months ago; I was skinny 125lb, 5'10". Now I'm around 140 on the scale.

Diet and making sure that you're doing high weight/low rep are the two most important things for skinny guys. The third most important thing is sleep, but you just do as well as you can with that.

With diet, you need to be hitting at least 1g of protein per 1lb of fat and make sure that your diet is something along the lines of 45-35-20 carbs-protein-fat.

I started doing whole body workouts 3 times a week, but around 3 months in I switched to half body workouts M/Tues and Thurs/Friday, alternating of course.

Just make sure that whatever lifts you do, that you don't do more than 8 reps per set and make sure that you're doing enough weight that a theoretical 9th rep would really be pushing it.

In some sense you just have to get started and be really diligent with eating. You'll probably have to eat more than you're used to at more times of day. Try to get 500+ calories more than you're expending so you can start tacking on muscle.

One last thing, don't worry about "fitness" per se. I tried to do cardio last year when I tried to start working out and I went nowhere because the cardio was gimping my gains.

I'm a lot less active now so that I can put on the gains that I want.

After I hit something like 160 or so, I'll get back into shape, but that should take quite a while.

dont listen to the anon who posted about not doing cardio when you want to gain wait. you should keep up all cardio that you are doin, but change your workout to a mass building workout. that means lookup a body building workout, you can probably find some good ones on google. but, to gain mass through muscle it takes some time to start noticing the change in weight, but after a few weeks of working out seriously you should start to gain mass and weight in muscle while keeping up your cardio. also youll have to change your diet so that it is high in protein to help build the muscle. you can do this by goin from 3 meals a day to 6 meals a day and eating a lot of PB&J sandwiches to. also, you could just buy protien and put it in shakes or anything like that. but that is the proper way to gain weight through muscle mass & workin out.
