I just read that one Russian guy's guide to getting them abs, he says instead of doing an actual crunch, its better to just try to push your lower back into the gruond as hard as possible from the crunch position. I havent tried it myself to see if it works, but if you do, tell me how it is.

Well i've read in a Mens Health magazine, the best exercise for abs is the bicycle crunch. Its 2.5 times beter than a standard crunch.

See the .gif on how to do it.

I prefer those. I try to touch the outside of my elbow on the outside of my knee.

Crunches will only take you so far. I used to do weighted sit ups but it got to the point where I couldn't find a big enough plate. That's the limit with sit-up type exercises it gets to the point where you can't hold enough weight to get good resistance.

Hanging leg raises are excellent, and brutal.
Other then that, cable-pull downs own crunches hard. So do Dead lifts, and a lot of other things. Crunches are pretty close to the bottom of the pile.

Yes. I've decided I shouldn't be doing them as the last thing I do at the gym because all my other muscles are crapping out on me at that point, which makes them harder to do ):
