I've been looking into MMA training. I'm female 5'2", 115 lbs, 14% body fat. I've never taken any martial art class but I'm a quick learner and very dedicated. I'm nervous about people not taking me seriously because I'm a girl. Any girls on /fit/ that are into MMA and can give me advice?

What's there to be nervous about? Just find a good gym, start learning, and kick some ass.

They are girls where I train who are doing MMA. If you're serious about learning people will respect you.

They'll take you seriously, believe me.

Do women ever spar against men if they are the same weight? Say a 145 guy vs 145 girl.

Or is it gender paired even in the gym.

depends what gym you go to

i've sparred against girls and also wrestled them. Integrated sports is now becoming more and more popular but some gyms still might separate

I'd hate fighting against a girl.

I'd feel all hesitant. You get shit if you win, you get SHIT ON if you lose.

No sister. when i fight anybody. i go full power. even the girls. never ever make the mistake of underestimating the opponent. I went easy on a girl(was a senior at the gym) she pulled a triangle choke on me so fast i was dumbstruck. always take everyone seriously. it shows some respect too

Theirs a few girls at my judo place. No one really treats them any different and you'll get used to full contact sparring and shit like that so it wont feel awkward. Still, i sometimes lol to myself when i shoot my hand out to grab their gi and my hand grabs their tittie for a sec.
