Hey /fit/,

I recently started to exercise, been pretty chubby most of my life. Lost around ~40 pounds since last summer. So I'm feeling pretty good about myself. Currently 5'8 around 168 pounds.

I still have a problem running though. I can never run for more than 5 minutes without my legs hurting like hell or being completely out of breath.

I can run on the elliptical consistently for 35 minutes at about 5.5 (mph I think) though. Running let alone just jogging I just can't do.

What do I need to do? HALP

Are you pacing yourself?
Have you stretched?
Are your knees or something fucked?

It could still be a gradual thing you need to build up to.

Moar info needed.

I doubt my knees are fucked up. I sprained one of my ankles as a kid, but I don't think that would really be a problem.

I never really stretch devote that much time to stretching. The longest I've done is probably 2 minutes worth.

I probably run a little faster than that guy in the picture as a starting pace.

Its because OP, your running faster outside then on the ellipitical. Truth is, its easier to run on a machine then it is to run outside. Your body has to adjust to the elevation, the wind etc. making it harder for you to sustain your rate. Either that or you just need to build up your endurance and if its that, I recommended a dosage of HIIT 3 times a week.

The machine gives you a time etc.

You just need goals, measure out a route of like 5km in your car.
Just pace yourself and think of making it to the end.

DO NOT STOP, worst thing you could do, push past the mental wall.

Oh god I'm sorry but I just have to post this, once you push through the mental wall..It's amazing. You just keep on going like you suddenly don't feel as sore and shit and you can keep on going but sometimes my legs just give out. Like I'm trying to make my legs move but they just get slower and slower. Shit rocks.

OP here, shit does sound awesome. I'm making my final push for some more weight loss before I transfer to a university next summer.

I'll definitely start to work harder on my running.

Thanks /fit/,

thats pretty much it, break through that mental wall.

the pain could ache through your body, your chest could be pumping as hard as it can to squeeze in that little bit of air and then push it out but you have to tell yourself "no matter what i will never give up! no matter how much it hurts! no matter how uncomfertable i feel!" if you cannot do that then there is no hope of breaking through that mental wall.

Pushing yourself past your limits is something your mind wont want but your heart will allow
