I am a former heavy pot smoker, I have been extremely inactive for the past 2 years. I am not fat at all, I am thin. I want to get into running and cardio, whats the best and safest way to do so?

any suggestions? it just seems really breathtaking to run, what would be best for getting my stamina up? short sprints or long runs?

Get off your ass and just do it. Really, it's that simple.

yea thanks, I guess Ill just keep running to exhaustion and then jogging home. Is that what other runners do?

take it slow and easy. nothing will happen overnight. start eating well (if you aren't already) and try to go for times rather than speed. set a goal (maybe starting at 30 or 40 minutes) and just jog to completion. pushing yourself hard when you're first starting isn't going to do anything but burn yourself out.

Some do it like that, if you're planning to run around something like a track or a lake that's already measured. What I do is drive around looking for routes that I would like to run, and measuring the distance on the odometer. Later, I can run all the way to some point, know the distance, and run all the way back home. It's more efficient that way.

run hard for like 10 minutes, then jog, then walk. you can do less than 10 minutes if its too hard
