I has a jump rope. but how long should I jump rope for?
>> Anonymous
9000 parsecs!

I jump rope in 3 minute intervals. Our sparring matches are only 2 minutes but you want to build endurance.

Or just keep going until your body gives out in shame and fatness..

Pretty hardcore, jumping once every 3 minutes.

A parsec is a measure of distance, not time.

Except the Kessel run passes the Maw black hole cluster, so it's quite possible Han was talking about taking the shortest distance (thus traveling closest to or through the black holes and proving what a badass he is).

both of these reasonings (is that a word?) are standard responses by those involved with the franchise.
Lucas says Han was just testing Luke and Obi-Wan, that's why Obi Wan gives him a look.

Some Star Wars books published later explain that the Kessel Run is around black holes and it could be a reference to Han's maneuverability around them.
