how important is eating correctly when trying to get back in shape?

I've never been one to adjust my eating habits to my workout ones, though that being said I haven't had fast food in forever, barely have sweets of any kind and only drink water

so TLDR where do I get started when it comes to eating correctly? any reccomendations or advice from anon?

if you dont eat right your workout doesnt matter, some douchebag will come along in about 10-20 minutes and write some fucking essay elaborating what i just said, but there it is in a nutshell.

if you are trying to gain weight its important to eat correctly, if you are trying to lose weight the most important thing is to not eat as much.

i myself am not some super serious bodybuilder, i have some protein mix, creatine, and i try to eat whenever i am hungry. i dont eat a bowl of brown rice and grilled chickenz 6 times a day though, but at the same time i dont see super impressive results either. im simply to lazy and poor to eat the highest quality food 6 times a day. if you want to get big dont take me for an example. if you are serious then go to bodybuilding.com and do everything they say. grab a calculator and prepare to go to the grocery store.

Nutrition is one of the most important parts of being fit. The best guide I've seen is Tom Venturo's Burn The Fat Feed The Muscle e-book.

eat complex carbs, quality protein such as fish and poultry, and low on the fats, especially saturated. don't eat a whole lot of any of these, space out the meals six times a day so that way your glucose/insulin/whatever levels are stable and whatnot. eat a lot of celery if your hungry because you actually burn more calories eating celery then you take in from it.
