Best ab exercise is whichever you prefer (within certain limits).
Avoid anchoring your feet (e.g. situps) as it works your hip flexors more than your abs and can add to the tightening of them that a lot of people already suffer from.
Bicycle crunches are good for the obliques. Reverse crunches aren't that hard, and I quite like doing them combined with leg lifts.
If you do a reverse crunch, pulling your back up with your abs and then extend your legs straight outwards, keeping them slightly off the floor (make sure your lower back is on the ground and not arching), start with one leg at a time if you can't do both without arching.
Abs respond well to weight if you want them to grow, as with any muscle.
But keep in mind that most of having a six pack is having a low body fat %, not working the muscles.
