Dumbbells or barbell? I'm a bigger fan of dumbbells myself, since you can pretty much workout any part of the upper body with them. I like to do dumbbell flies and standard chest press. I also like the fact how you're forced by all directions to keep them sustained with each arm alone, feels like it hits more areas. Why do people insist on using a barbell for their chest? Is it only that you can get higher weight on it after the usual dumbbell max of 100lb each bell is reached?
I have often wondered the same thing, so I'm glad someone asked this. Eagerly awaiting responses and debates.
you can push more with a barbell.its for the ego
I believe the barbell ensure that you symmetricaly work yourself. However dumbbells seem to be better at working a lot more supporting muscle fibers.
i usually mix it up every other week betweent barbells and dumbbells for my chest. as far as i know, dumbbells recruit more of your stabilizer muscles while the barbell is better for strength training due to the fact that you can do more weigt on it.
with dbs i get tingling in my hands, so i prefer barbells for bench and standing pressalso its easier to slowly increase the weight with barbels since the heavier dbs only come in increments of 5kg
I mean, when the day comes that I'm using the 100 lb barbells so many reps comfortably then I guess I'll move to bench press, but I'm still on like, the 60's. Barbell users try and see how much you can do with dumbbells in comparison.
>>3133i usually bench 175 comfortably with the barbelland i can comfortably bench 70 lb dumbbells
