You still wake up at reveille and not move, just wait for the announcement to get up?

did you get /fit/ in prison?

Did they beat you until you couldn't realize that your question was not fitness related and belongs on another board?
>> Anonymous
>>377166

Reveille? What the fuck. Not the army bro.

The first few years of my sentence I had incredible insomnia, didn't sleep for more than few hours.

Usually woke up when the cell lights kicked on, and the port clinked open.
>> Anonymous
>>377165
If you stay in your cell as much as possible will you take more shit for it, or less?
>> Anonymous
>>377171

Yes I did. Boredom tends to motivate you to exercise. Routine is the key to surviving.

Funny how you can get in incredible shape with subpar equipment, and shitty food.

Give us a basic outline of an average day.

Also, what kind of prison were you in? How long? For what?
>> Anonymous
>>377174

You cannot stay in your cell. If you don't bathe, you will be forced to bathe. If you won't leave your cell, you will be forced into the yard.

I'm assuming you meant prisoner and not prisonguard;

How long and what for?

What happened? If it's something you're not willing to talk about, that's fine.

As far as another question, how did boredom affect you? You mentioned it quite a bit. What did you do to stop it, read, etc?
>> Anonymous
>>377181

It's not so dramatized.

It's all about respect, if you step out of line, you will be stomped out.

If you don't step out of line, keep out of other people's business, keep to yourself you should be fine. But if you will eventually be stomped out or put in the car and dragged by association.

I made no friends during my time there, but I didn't make any enemies either. Besides a few scraps when I was forced to.

how's the prison library? anything interesting, or is it just comic books?
>> Anonymous
>>377192

A moron I let stay at my house for a few days decided to steal something from people you don't want to steal from.

Someone broke into my house, and I killed him.

Unfortunately for me, and the specifics of the case I'd rather not get into, it could not be ruled a self-defense.

My "good" time was taken from me because there was a few incidents that took place where inmates got hurt, and I was forced into the SHU.
>> Anonymous
What do you think about? That's what I've always wondered about prisoners
>> Anonymous
>>377192

Ahh, boredom. That has to be the worst part.

For me, I had to develop a routine. Just like when I wasn't locked up, I had to have a routine.

You wake up, drink a cup of coffee, take a shit, go to work, etc.

Develop a routine, keep yourself busy, and it'll assuage the boredom quite a bit.

I read everything I could get my hands on, and surprisingly the local library was well stocked.

Does prison really turn everyone 'hard' or is that just for gang members?
>> Anonymous
>>377206

0/10, but I'll humor you because I'm bored and a few whiskeys deep.

Considering the food that was available, I had a balanced diet, but it was not 6 small meals a day with protein, whole foods, veggies, creatine, whey shakes, blah blah blah.

The food was shitty, but when you work out 2 hours a day for 4 years, you'll get fit eventually.

I have a nice body, yes. Probably 8-9% bodyfat, I have always been lean though.
>> Anonymous
What did you do after you were released? Was it hard finding another job and coming back to your family and/or friends?
>> Anonymous
>>377210

That's hard to explain. Most gang-members are pussyholes when they're on their own. However, if you look for hard-asses you will find them.

Since prison, there are things about people I'm more aware of. Their body-language mostly. I tend to notice where their hands are more, and direct eye contact when I speak with people.

I've noticed this makes people on the outside more nervous.

Luckily what I do is something you don't exactly need a resume for. I tattoo for a living, which meant I had work on the inside as well.

Fortunately, I could pay for my mortgage even from the inside.

It was difficult for the first few months readjusting. It was more difficult going out with my friends, after a few beers they'd want to hear stories, what I did to get into shape, etc.

My family was completely accepting, I'm blessed in that aspect.

Thank you for being cool bud. Haha, I've lurked 4chan these past 6 months, and believe me, I've definitely noticed most people don't care about anyone else's posts.

The most significant thing that has changed me is dealing with who I am now.

You take that time spent in there, and you try and make it apart of yourself without creating a dichotomy. It's difficult at first to prevent yourself from seperating, you try and bury the person you were, but eventually come to the conclusion that's who you are now. The worst was my nightmares, I had them for months when I first came home. Several times my wife would rub my back, or touch me while I slept and I reacted instinctively, luckily without hurting her.

I am still uncomfortable with my back facing people. I just recently went to a Dodger game, and I felt extreme anxiety hearing so many people, sounds, noise everywhere around me. I had to walk away for a bit to catch my breath.

>> Anonymous
>>377220

I don't even consider it smuggling, the availability of everything I needed was there. At first I used a handmade guitar string mag with coils taken from a walkman, but later on as I made a few extra dollars I was able to buy an actual Starr mag, with a whole set of needles.

Ink was just as easy to get, I was not in a FMSP so there was no urea/rubber mixing going on.

A solid artist is always needed, and as I was one of few, it was easy to make money. And when I mean money, I mean cigarettes, clothes, moonshine alcohol, lighters, watches, extra blankets and pillows, meal chits for weeks, etc.

When it comes to gang-tattoos, I've been contacted several times by federal agents as far as what I know about certain symbols, work, acronyms, etc.

I was incredibly lucky as I tattooed more cons, more cons gave me respect, and there were a few heavy hitters there who I tattooed that were cons you should know if you needed something.

Up & downs, I think I've seen them called burpees. They build endurance and are great for conditioning. My routine was generally like this:

On an 8x8 concrete pad: 20 up and downs; cross to the other side 19 up and downs, cross to the other side, 18 up and downs, etc until I got down to 1. This was only when the equipment was taken, which was rare.

Normally:

10x10 Chins/pulls with a plate held between my legs.
5x8 Bench/military press
5x8 Squats/lunges
5x8 Row
10x10 Dips, with a plate held between my legs.

We had steel rails used as a rough half rack, chin/pull bars, some concrete pads, basic barbell and barbell plates, and a bench for pressing.

There wasn't much.

My mom went to prison, she just got out this year. She was only in for 6 months on drug charges/driving without a license a few times though. My uncle went for two years when he robbed a store at knifepoint when he was 16. Tough place, but that's what happens if you don't THINK before you ACT.

Mind your business, keep to yourself. Nobody is your friend in there, you have to remember that.

I recommend carrying a bible around with you as soon as possible, as most tend to respect those with a faith, even if you're atheist (as I am). In the yard, work on some sort of routine, I recommend lifting, etc.

Keep your head down, but don't be afraid to fight if you have to. If someone fucks with you, says something shitty, I recommend reacting. But pick your battles.
>> Anonymous
>>377248

Yes because if the millions of people in prisons had only remembered to "THINK before they ACTED" shit might've been different. What a pile of shit.

Most shit done is done without thinking it through. If I got to go back and let's say stop myself from what I had done, I wouldn't.

I was protecting myself, and eliminating someone I deemed a threat, there was not time for me to construct a logical argument against my actions, and consider the situation. Homeboy's strapped, he's in your house, it's dark, you react. Period.

Cover it up. I make small mistakes now and then, maybe a shaky line here and there, but it's extremely easy to cover up.

What level of security was your prison?
If there's one thing you would change about the way our legal system works, what would it be?
Thanks for the openness.
>> Anonymous
>>377344

It was Federal, however it was not a maximum. I was in a general population block, but spent 3 months in the SHU, which is the Security Housing Unit, a 23/7 hour lockdown.

God man, I don't know where to start. There are so many things wrong with the system it's incredible. Maybe our endless appeal system? Routine maltreatment of felons from guards without suitable supervision.

Some of the things I've seen happen, is incredible. You see someone with their face cut, you feel nauseous. The second time, you feel a little bit concerned. After that, you'll step over them like everyone else. Desensitization is inevitable.

I normally wouldn't be so open, but I'm drinking haha.

You got a good lawyer and basically managed to plead temporary insanity. congratz. >> Anonymous
>>377380

It's not necessarily defined by positive and negative. It's a whole list of gray areas. But certainly, if you're pursuing any type of professional career, being a felon is not going to help you in any way.

For myself, it's definitely made me a stronger person mentally and physically. I know who I am, and what I'm capable of.

Keep in mind, there are plenty of people who have difficulties making it. They get caught up in some bad shit, and they become lifers.

I'd definitely say the negatives outweigh the positives. You would never want to be removed from the ones you love, it's a horrible helpless, frustrating, debilitating feeling.
