I think what everyone missed while posting in this thread is that there is always more than 1 way to get big/muscular/strong. Powerlifters and Olympic lifters can lift alot because thats what they were trained to do. They were trained to do cleans, snatches, jerks, etc. They have been training at these particular exercises most likely for their entire lives. Yet if put in the situation to do body building types of exercises, they would probably struggle. The same goes for body builders, as they are used to their types of exercises, but if faced with olympic lifts they would also experience difficulty. There's more than one type of "strong" on this planet, but it all depends on how one looks at strong, is it being able to curl the 50s or bench 300? or is it the ability to put a fuckton of force into lifting 300 lbs clear over your head and hold it there for 3 seconds?

Well, my goal is to be a powerlifter after I'm done basketball, so I lift generally the same way, I just eat less.

Anyway, right now during the season, I only go 3 per week, because I just want to try and keep the gains I made during the off-season.

During the off-season, I did I 4 day split, dynamic effort upper / max effort upper, dynamic / max effort lower.

Dynamic upper was usually benching with bands, 8 sets of 3 reps, little weight, trying to get as much explosion as possible. After that, it was a little bit higher reps, usually around 6-8, of whatever I felt like I needed, ie, maybe dumbell rows, skullcrushers, JM presses, weighted pullups, military press, dumbell bench, whatever, I tried to mix it up to try and not stay static. Also, I avoid machines like plague, because they don't help your stabilizing muscles, which are really important for sports, and lifting. For max effort, since my weakness on the bench is my triceps, I did a lot of 2 and 3 board presses, with greater than maximal weight to focus on my triceps a bit more. I also would do 3 rep maxes, 2 rep maxes, reverse bands with more than maximal weight, a bunch of stuff. The assistance work was usually the same idea, usually doing lower reps for the follow-up assistance (4-6), and for the last couple high reps (6-8).

For lower, it's basically the same idea. For dynamic effort, maybe box squats with bands, a high box squat with lower weight, deadlift with bands, sometimes olympic lifting, like powercleans, snatches, clean and jerk. For assistance, it was a little bit hard to not use machines, I still tried to get good exercises in, like glute-ham raises. It depends how I was feeling, and my quads are stronger than my hamstrings, so I tried to focus on my hamstrings in my exercises. Max effort was the same idea, like a rep max with squat, or dead. I didn't really max out with the olympic lifts, as I'm not that great at the form, so I would usually do them as assistance after I'm done squatting or deadlifting.

I usually also did some core work on the assistance days as well. Also, I usually squatted and deadlifted on alternate weeks.

These has made me into a much, much better basketball player than if I hadn't worked out. I mean, there are a lot of players that are faster, or more agile, or that can jump higher, But because I'm a lot stronger than them, I make sure they have to play from positions they aren't comfortable from, limiting their effectiveness. And on offense, I just go where I want to go, and they can't stop me
