ITT: little things that can add up.

By donating blood, men can lower their chance of heart disease as well as creating a new batch of healthier red blood cells. Also, you burn around 650 calories while donating.
>> Sabby !!J9oxJsHtaZJ
Does this apply to women too?
>> Hammerknife !7ITukp3Pj2
Blood production is stimulated, but never heard of reduction of heart disease risk. Maybe if you have high blood pressure.

And you lose calories because of the various sugars/proteins in the blood you donate. You're literally removing them.

Just making sure since there's a high-ish risk of heart disease in my family, women included.

While this passes the laugh test, I'd be interested to see the source of this data.

Related and much more important.

Every guy knows that. Having a little ball of sugar and crap in your prostate that doesn't come out isn't healthy.

I don't know why people even publish things in New Scientist anymore.

Oh wait, yes I do - it's because it's not peer reviewed in any meaningful way.

enjoy your aids.

literally, because with them, there really isnt anything else worth living for.

It ain't AIDS, it's from living in the UK during the mad cow "epidemic", and then moving back to the US.

isn't this detectable in the blood? or are our methods so medieval poor that we have to blacklist anyone who existed in certain times/places?

There's no reliable diagnostic for Prion infection that doesn't involve a brain dissection.

Come up with one and you will be an overnight millionaire.

im not allowed to donate blood because i had gay sex

once. out of curiosity.
i could lie and i know i have no std's but fuck them for discriminating.

iirc, there's a time limit on anal, it's not a "forever" exclusion.

>>16345

huh, what do you know, I was wrong. That's actually pretty dumb, given how cheap and accurate the PCR screens for HIV are.

I've given blood once, but I seriously felt like shit afterward. Just walking up the stairs made my heart rate sky rocket and made me winded.

Oh yeah? I fainted my first time and I've never fainted EVER before.

I didn't the next few times around, because apparently you're supposed to eat first. Lol.

Can't give blood because I used to live in Germany. Not that it's stopped my sister from lying about it and donating all the time, but similarly to some posters, they can go fuck themselves for their arbitrary limitations. I'm fucking O- too.
>> Anonymous
>>16366

Germany's not in the vCJD absolute exclusion zone - you're only barred if you were there for more than five years.

How the hell do you burn 650 calories while donating?
>> Basement Dwelling Troll !MFbxgC5u3.
Either way I donate when able. Next donate date is set in March.
>> Anonymous
>>16366
Wait, there are countries that restrict you from donating if you're from somewhere else? That's retarded on so many levels, I can't even believe it.
>> Sabby !!J9oxJsHtaZJ

Probably by what>>16271said
>> Anonymous
>>16523

Not really... given that there's no diagnostic for vCJD that doesn't involve an autopsy, it's probably better safe than sorry.

>>16265
You too huh? I lived in Italy for a few years and I can't donate because of some shit about Mad Cow disease, even though if I had it the symptoms would have shown up by now.
>> Anonymous
>>16531

No one knows how long the incubation period of vCJD really is. Anyone who says they do is over confident.

everyone needs at least 15 minutes to recover from donating blood

The benefit is more likely from reduced iron. Too much of it and it'll start getting stored in every organ, fucking them up. Women shed blood regularly so they're less at risk until menopause.
>> Anonymous

Read the rest of the thread. I can't give blood into the US supply because I lived in the UK from 1989-1994, and they're worried about vCJD prion contamination of the blood supply here.

>>16811
You can still donate if you're on medication here in the UK (in most cases). You just have to tell them what you're on.

I told them I took an Ibroprufen 3 days ago and they say if that's the case my blood will be used in operations, rather than for cancer patients who can't tolerate such thinned out blood.

>First of all, if 180 is what you actually meant to type, you should probably be dead.

yea its what i meant to write. I'm pretty young, but first effects already show, heavy headache mixed up with a feeling of pressure.
>> Anonymous
>>16809

Yah, I'm a ga/y/ and that always kept me exempt from donating blood. UK law sucks, seriously. HIV tests are cheap and cheerful, and iirc they scan all the blood they take for crap like that anyway.

tl;dr UK Blood foundations haet buttsecks. Unless you're a woman, of course.

Then did you mean 180/145? Because the top number should always be bigger than the bottom number, otherwise your heart is imploding or something.

If it is 180/145, and you are experiencing headaches and pressure, that is very very bad. You could easily have a stroke in the near future. You should really get some medication.
>> Anonymous
>>17017
yea i told doctors that i live in fucking fear of getting a stroke sometime soon, they dont realy give a shit because i had a past of smoking weed and think im tripping balls. i'm realy need a way to lower my bloodpressure without medication/dropping smoking, so i thought donating blood was a good idea.

What shitty doctors you have. Donating blood will only temporarily remove fluid, just like dehydrating yourself would.

Look at your lifestyle. What are some things you can change to lower your blood pressure? Do you drink too much caffeine, is your diet high in fat, are you overweight, do you exercise, are you black? (lol, okay, you can't change that one, but blacks do have higher blood pressures)

You smoke and don't want to quit. As an ex-smoker I can sympathize. Seriously, look at your lifestyle and figure out what is causing your high BP. I don't think genetics alone can cause one that high.

Giving blood feeds vampires. Haven't you seen the movie Blade?
