Needing some Advice Anonymous
Hey /fit/, need some advice.
I'm 5'5'' and 217 pounds. I've just begun a new workout program that consists of lots of running and some weight lifting. Here's the thing, I know I need to eat healthy. (Tuna, Salads, Chicken, etc...) but I don't know how much to eat. How many calories should I be eating per day? I just started eating breakfast again (two weeks ago I was eating bagels, have since switched to low-fat yogurt). Also, what's the best way to get rid of "man-boobs", seriously I'm sick of living with these things.

eat 5-6 small meals spread out through the day. eating that often is work and you won't be able to eat large meals. you should target roughly 500-600 calories/meal. drinking a lot of water is not necessary but it helps fill your stomach without sugar/carb/calorie dense juices and soda.

want to lose man boobs? lose weight. simple. no spot reducing. fat storage generally follows a first on - first off, but its spread all over your body so your mantits may take a little while.

5-6 meals at 500-600 calories each? I'm eating around 1,000 right now and have been for the last couple of weeks. Do I need to bump this up?

yes. it's paradoxical, but you need to eat to lose weight.

@ 1k cal/day, you will lose a bit of weight quickly, but your body will stop this soon. your metabolism will go into "starvation mode" where it slows way down. it's a relic of evolution where humans could survive famine for periods by reducing the rate at which metabolism occurs and how fat is stored.

basically, any calorie dense food (carbs and fats) eaten while in starvation mode get stored immediately as fat, and proteins get burned off faster. this will lead to a reduction of muscle mass (despite your work outs). this is why you don't see muscular anorexics; because their body has cannibalized all their muscle tissue.

so it's the worst of both worlds, you lose muscle, and your body tries to preserve your fat stores. to get out of starvation mode, eat but eat smart.

your diet should be lean meats, whole grains, green leafy vegetables and low saturated fats (found in fish oils and certain grains)

1000 a day?

I am 5'10 and weigh 140ish pounds, I am trying to cut so I am having 300 calorie per meal, 6 times a day. Well I do my best anyway. That is around 1800 calories a day, give or take a few.

What are you trying to do, cut or bulk?

Cut. I'm eating 3 meals a day. Usually it's a yogurt in the morning (100 calories), a sandwich for lunch (subway, something like 300 calories) and then dinner, which varies but tonight was a can of tuna, a can of okra, and a fruit cup. (somewhere around 400 calories I think) on top of that I worked out for an hour with my heart rate in the 150-180 range.

So...more calories?

This is a terrible diet, you need to increase your protein, you will lose far too much weight far too quickly, I lost only 5 kilos in about a week and I had so much excess skin.

Google some exercising forums, choose the most active and sign up, get people's advice, do a little research yourself, it's the only way.
