Howdy, Retail shoe fag here.
first off, the nub that said a shoe should last seven years has never heard of a thing called compression set.
Second, Pressure test machines do nothing to see what the foot is doing in a dynamic state. Get yourself to a proper shoe store that does gait analysis. heck, if you where in toronto, canada, i would hook you up.
Asics, New balance, Saucony and Mizuno are the top 4 in the world in terms of the BEST running shoes. Nike sucks, period.
Do you need the best? Probably not. I'm guessing since you're going to running maybe 3-4 times a week, a mid range shoe should do the job. Expect to pay approx $110-$140 CAD (50-80 usd) Look for good flex grooves on the bottom of the shoe, that only the toe flexes, and not structures proximal to the medial longitudinal arch. basically, if your flexing behind your met. heads, kiss your Plantar Fascia bye bye.
Hope this helps, enjoy!
