Is jumping rope a decent way to exercise?

I'm not willing to run since I don't want anyone on the street to see my bouncing blubber while I turn beet red and half-die.

It's not bad, i guess. But seriously, go outside and run asap, You're just making excuses, and you're thinking for other people, how they think about you. That's one of the most retarded things to do, First of all, they'll PROBALY think "Oh hey, check that guy out, he's doing something about his weight", instead of "Lololol fatty ewewew lolol there's children out here lololol", and even if they did, they're THINKING it, not saying. Stop making excuses, go outside, now.

All it does is improve cardio and tone muscles. Weight loss will be minimal.

Just get a proper diet going on.

err, jump rope more about timing and control. if u suck at it, and keep fucking up every 10 jumps, ur not going to get ur heart rate up.

run

OP here.

Thanks for the quick, confidence boosting replies anons. Maybe running at night will curb my vain shyness?

Just a couple questions for you gents...

1.Would running everyday make a difference or is every other day more practical? I've been living a sedentary lifestyle for the last year and have gained about fifteen or so pounds and I'm willing to jump up and go all out.

2.How long will it take for me to get acclimated to running? How long till its more or less habitual? I hear two weeks in as long as you're seriously sticking to it.

it depends what kind of running youre doing really.

Running hard for half a mile is a lot different than jogging a mile. Im not going to get into specific workout routines with it since im nowhere near an expert, but look up HIIT

In all honesty, don't jog if you're to shy. Do HIIT, it'll take less time but have same effects.

I just reviewed HIIT and I read that "any activity where you can alternate periods of high intensity with periods of low intensity" can apply. Do you think that really means ANYTHING or are they just bullshiting? Because, I mean... fucking squating or lunges would apply right?

Literally anything, check burpees, this with some resting time=HIIT.

Squatting alone won't get your heartbeat high enough for the time needed.

best with sprints, a good stationary bike, or on a C2 rower.

burpees for HIIT is retarded

Running at night (or preferably early morning) is great. Less people, cars, noise and the heat is lower.

Jesus, thanks guys. I'm so fucking pumped to go do this. I think I might try running the stairs at my local baseball diamond bleachers. They have about 50 steps, they're cement and have low traffic during the early mornings.

Also, I checked this guys article (http://musclemedia.com/training/hiit.asp) and his HIIT table (http://musclemedia.com/training/hiit_table.asp) and while it seems to cater to the weight training crowd and looks to lower "overtraining", it seems like it might work for me. Maybe adding in an extra day a week would be more effective for me since I'm not looking to weight train?

I'm trying to work slow and build up on the treadmill, right now I do about a mile a day at 3 mph (sometimes I do a quarter of the mile or even half the mne at 4 mph) is it good to do it every day or does it make a difference? I'm combinging that with cutting calories btw

I'm only interested in cardio really. I need to be able to run like an injun.

Take it from a former fatty and someone who sees fatties running every day at the gym - nobody gives a fuck.

If someone sees you running, they aren't going to focus on your flying blubber; they're just going to think "hey, that guy's doing something about his weight," and then they'll forget you forever.

tldr start pumpin them legs fatty
