How do I increase my metabolism?

A) I understand that more muscle will, but by how much?
B) Will semi-daily cardio increase metabolism?
C) Will eating certain foods or at certain times or amounts increase my metabolism?
D) Does eating low (1200-1500) calories lower metabolism? If so, permanently or temporarily?

Thanks

Eating smaller meals throughout the day helps. It keeps your body in burning mode.

So eat 5-6 smaller meals a day as opposed to 3 big ones.

A.) Any muscle will speed up your metabolism. The problem is that it's hard to gain 20+ lbs. of pure muscle quickly. Unless you're a body builder, limiting diet is easier.
B.) Yes.
C.) Yes. Eating breakfast starts your metabolism faster, and eating several small meals will eventually quicken it too.
D.) There's such a thing as basal metabolic rate. I'm pretty sure 1200 is below it for the average-sized male. It'll send your body into shock, and it'll store all your fat in a life-preserving effort. Give height, age, weight, and activity level and you can figure out what your minimum calorie intake can be. It may lower it, but you'll also lose weight.

6'6,220,18. mostly low activity levels except days when I do cardio. when I do cardio its for at least an hour (usually 2, sometimes 3). cardio days are about 3 times a week. I also lift weights for an hour 2-3 times a week.

A) Depends on the person, but any increase in muscle helps by a great deal. Unless you're already fit.
B) Yups
C) Smaller and earlier.
D) Temporarily, but really depends on how long you do it. But you can return it back to "normal" by eating more later.

Good luck man.

Eat more smaller meals 6-8, and earlier like literally within minutes almost of waking up. =]

Somewhere around 2,500 calories is fine. Unless you have literally 0% muscle mass, you're still 18 and can eat pretty much whatever. The old adage of "2,000 calories per day" was born out of the 80's along with other shitty nutritional guidelines like BMI and "margarine is good for you".

Supplement your off days with twice/weekly weight lifting. It'll help whatever sport you're playing. If you're not playing a sport and you're 6'6", there are lots of teams that'd recruit you just to stand there and occasionally jump and throw a ball at someone/something. Volleyball is an excellent example of this.

I've been reading "The Secrets To Gaining Muscle Mass Fast" a bit lately and it has some tips.

To increase metabolism:
Increase meal frequency (smaller meals through the day)
Cardio done at a moderate pace
Increase muscle mass
Increase protein intake

There are some things that will lower your metabolism (avoid these):
Sporadic/irregular eating
High body fat percentage
Being inactive
Being on a low-calorie diet (pushes you into starvation mode)
Intense cardio (increases endurance, which lowers resting heart rate, which reduces metabolism)
