Chewing Anonymous
Hey /fit/, so I've heard that your body will digest pretty much everything you eat, no matter what (except corn and other indigestibles).

So, I was wondering, would it be a good idea for me to chew my food LESS? If my body is going to digest everything completely anyway, wouldn't chewing things less thoroughly mean that my innards have to work harder to digest it, thus burning more calories?

I got this idea from foods like asparagus, which are supposedly "negative calorie" foods (if there is such a thing) meaning that it already takes more calories to digest than the food itself contains. I also got this idea after I learned that it is better to eat real food than to drink a shake or smoothie, because real food is harder to digest than a shake or smoothie, because shakes and smoothies are already (essentially) completely chewed up for you.

Good idea, yay or nay? I would chew everything just enough to make sure it goes down, but still leave it fairly chunky. Would I get as much nutrition from my food this way, or would I be compromising the amount of nutrients I get?

Chewing is part of the digestive process. Chewing burns some calories, dipshit.

Or you could believe this stupid bullshit and choke.

Yeah I know, but I was just thinking the added burden on the stomach would burn more calories than the calories burned from chewing.

So I'm wrong, then?

Vitamins and minerals are better absorbed from well chewed food.

Chew celery until it's a tasteless ball of matter in your mouth, hold it in the mouth for a few minutes, then spit it out. Bam, 'negative calories'.

sigh, so you're going to wolf down your meals without chewing... enjoy your heartburn + indigestion

Chewing burns more calories than digesting, since it's more physical work than your stomach splashing acid and then giving up.
Either way, the amount of calories burned is so teeny it's fucking pointless. Just do some jumping jacks before eating if you're that anal.
