Well i don't have much experience in the way of weights,

but a couple summers of surfing every low-tide when the waves are good will give you that section of muscle you're looking at!

Yeah, does swimming build muscle? (Obviously not as fast as lifting, but is it viable?)

It definately builds muscle, but not the "Bulky" way weights do.

Where as Swimming is more of an overall-body workout (even though it focuses alot on the arms), Surfing builds up the shoulders a LOT. The 1st surf session every year for me wipes me out and makes me barely able to lift my arms, but most every session after that is great, and for some reason i can push myself further and faster when i have goals like "Gotta catch this wave because there's nothing after it for a minute" or "Have to get over this wave before it breaks on me".

a 2nd idea occured to me besides weights: would Bag-work (like boxing on a heavy bag or speed bag) also help with the arms alot?
