Dear /fit/,
I'm a jolly big fat fuck, 5'11" and nearing 280lbs. I work a 9-5 job and have no information about weightloss. All the information I have gathered seems to contradict other information. I'm not looking to get a 6-pack or bench my own weight, I just want to quit being obese. The apartment complex I live in has two exercise rooms, bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, and and four-sided weight machine (plate driven kind). Please help me quit being so damn fat.

1. Dont have shitty food in your house
2. Say you eat 6 chocolate bars a day ( EXAMPLE), start by changing it to 5, and when you feel you're ready, 4.. untill you dont eat them anymore, and i promise you, you won't miss them
3. Once you weigh around 220, start doing cardio
4. Last step, Cut out all soda's. go with water
5. ????

Don't follow any sort of fancy diet.

Just stop eating fast food, cakes, doughnuts etc.

At your size you could probably eat 3000 cals a day, do no exercise and still lose loads of weight.

I share an apartment with 4 others, so I really can't control what they buy. I do drink a lot of water and sometimes beer with dinner. Are there any dangers hopping on the treadmill or bike while I'm over 220? Are there any resources I should trust above others?

Just the fact that your heartrate will go through the roof after 3 minutes of running since your not used to it. And don't slowly decrease eating junk food, you will just go back to eating like you do now. My advice that worked for me is to cut out the pop and beer (extremely hard but worth it) and eat more salads when you go out. As for working out, start at a brisk walk on the treadmill for 20-30 minutes and start increasing your pace every week or so. A good diet is the best thing you can do right now though.

Drink beer when you're out and want to get drunk, it has no other purpose.

That being said, drink vodka instead, its better for you.

eat what bodybuilders eat but significantly less.
learn from them, they are experts at losing fat while retaining muscle(which is your goal even if you aren't trying to bulk up)

i'm on a similar path, most important thing i've learned thus far: NEVER MISS A MEAL eat small, and every 2.5 hrs. starving is not how you lose weight, not overeating when you do eat and keeping your digestive system churning nonstop is how you lose weight.
whenever you go out to eat, be prepared to eat a maximum of 1/2 of whatever you order and take the rest to go.

also, i can tell right now, you don't want it bad enough. create a STRONG DESIRE to lose weight and stick with it.
