how do you know when you've overtrained?

yesterday i could barely finished the workout i put together, most of it was mentally but it was brought on by physical reasons. the rest of the day I was really depressed and people around me were trying to cheer me up but i just couldn't get it together mentally.

i walked around lethargically, and was really really fatigued, and actually had doubts about my future as I lost interest or something.

i hoped it would disappear the next day but it got worse, i woke up after about 10 hours of straight sleep and felt even more fatigued. in fact i laid in bed for about 45 minutes before i could get the willpower and strength to get out. then walking around campus i was getting fatigued from just walking which is fucking crazy.

i figured it was just all in my head, but i wanted to train today but i couldn't get any strength or anything even though i wanted to train. I tested myself and i could barely get 1 pull-up out before i was extremely fatigued, when i can usually do 15-20 before stopping (not from fatigue but from muscular endurance)

am i overtrained? i figured i haven't taken a full rest day in over 18 days, as in do nothing physical at all (i usually take recovery days every 4-5 days which is either 30-45 minutes @ 75-80% MHR either airdyne, C2, or running) but now i feel like i haven't slept in forever.

i have never overtrained before, but I just wanted other opinions on this

its hard to say if you are overtraining or not, but you clearly need to take a week off. It could be something else, maybe mono, a poor diet or sleeping pattern. Regardless of what it is, you need to take a break to get your body and mind back on track

You are not resting enough. You're pushing yourself too hard, failing to realise people take restdays mostly because muscles grow while RESTING, not training.

You'er not overtrained. Overtraining is a condition that would need about 3-6 month of rest and recovery. U r just a lil bit tired, sleep rest and eat - a lot nad ull be fine in 2-3 days

this anon is right on the ball

likely you lack the ability to even overtrain yourself...and if you did....
>> Anonymous
No such thing as over-training...there is just under eating.

Seconding this anons advice, it's a bitch when it happens but you'll be fine. Just make sure that you don't break out of your routine.

Also, what is the exercise going on in the background of OP's pic?

overtraining is when your muscles can't recover fast enough to keep up with your workouts. Fairly easy to do if you're a beast in the gym or on dat juice.

WRONG

being on the juice allows the body to be recovered at a faster rate (higher protein synth) so the scale is moved up. try again you fag

and NO its not easy to be overtrained, especially at the total beginner level like every1 here.

eating 75g of protein a day does not qualify you to be over trained.

tldr: your gay workout NO. you literally lack the WILL and MEANS

running 3 months straight of a bulgarian MSC competition cycle/ 3 westside barbell circamax phases in a row YES

NO U

Not everyone here is a beginner fatty lump lump

there is a fuckload more in common with you and a beginner than you and an advanced lifter

so fuck off

if you got you 2.5xBW dl and 2xbw+ squat, then you are no longer shit, and getting OTed is a real possibility.

Are we talking 1RM lifts or training weight?
>> Anonymous
you have hypothyriodism
>> Anonymous
>>341357
if you were talking training weights at that level,

you wouldnt be near /fit/

I'm close to that level with my training weights with about 4 months of Rippetoe's SS. 150 lbs bodyweight, 325 lb deadlift and 260 lb squat. But yea, the noob gains have definitely stopped, the gains are coming harder, and my recovery levels are slowing down. Overtraining in sight, u guys think?

time to do one last hard week, take a week off and change up the routine
>> Anonymous

Yea, figured that might be the case. Any suggestions? Someone here mentioned doing a Sheiko, Westside, or the advanced programs on the Starting Strength wiki.

also how tall are you? - if you're not a midget, you did it wrong. you're supposed to drink a gallon of whole milk every day - i can basically guarantee you didn't unless you started off a 130 pound refugee. on top of your normal food, thats 2400 good calories that should put you around 5k calories a day. that will provide for all the recovery you need, as well as continue linear strength gains. i bet you could grow 20-30 lbs and hit 300/400 in bs and dl, THEN your no longer a total newb, and its time to find a new program.

tldr; do 4 more months - drink your milk.

How would you even fucking take a shit if you drank that much milk?

I'm 5'7, started out at 140 lbs. According to Rip's chart, my estimated 1RM max (I'm using 85% as training weight) on squats are nearing advanced status, and the deadlifts are already there. Not trying to brag or anything, but I do think I'll keep it up with SS. Only done one reset so far, so I think I'll change it up when after another reset happens. Like to gain 10 more pounds but thats not very important to me, so probably shoveling more food and milk down is a good idea too. My goal is to break through the 1RM advanced status with my training weight (heheheh) for all the lifts, before I switch everything up by going over to the darkside, Crossfit. No raging allowed, enlisting in the USMC in a year. Anyways, I'm kind of rambling, going to hit the sack now.
