sup /fit/. just came back from the gym.after i finished my deadlifts some dude came up to me and advised me to get a belt since he says i will pop a hernia if i keep doing it. whats your take on this guys?i am 5'5" 148 lbs. i was doing 1 x 5 @ 205 lbs
ya your still lifting peanuts, when you start going into the 300s then ya throw a belt on

Belts have only purpose: To let you lift a little bit more. This is only needed in competition.There is no health benefit.
Just lift with good form and you'll be fine.
If you're going to get a hernia, you're going to get it regardless.Also, you don't use a fucking belt for DLs. It's for overhead work, heavy overhead work when your core is already strong but you need the support.
