That would help, yes. Just add on some cardio a few times a week and as long as you don't have the metabolism of a walrus, you should start seeing improvement.
As to types of exercise, it really doesn't matter. Just do whatever it takes to increase your heart rate, and continue doing it for about half an hour. Depending on your aerobic fitness you might do okay with a brisk walk, or you might have to run. It all depends. Just try some stuff out and see what you can do.
