You don't fix a problem by force, idiots. This didn't work for prohibition, it isn't working for gun violence, it isn't working for drugs, excise taxes didn't stop smokers, etc.
With smoking, the taxes barely dented anyone with a decent job, and if someone was poor and smoked they just kept smoking and bought less of other things. Won't be any different with a fat guy and his fast food..he's going to stay fat and keep eating, he'll just spend less on something else.
You need to change society's views as a whole to remedy a problem like this. You first need to truly educate people on why it's bad to be obese, and then you need to actually make them UNDERSTAND why it's good to lose weight. Again, with the comparison to smoking, they put warning labels on the shit but it didn't stop anything, the same goes for overeating...all these campaigns and commercials about healthy living are going largely ignored because these people have developed an emotional addiction to food. There is too much "Go exercise for 1 hour and eat vegetables" and too little showing people the true effects of shit like diabetes and heart disease. Basically, our government just goes around saying "HURR ITS BAD DAWG", but they aren't giving a serious enough example of just how badly obesity related illnesses affect you.
I guarantee if they could somehow mimic the feeling and pain of a heart attack and have people be exposed to it, you'd get a lot more people willing to change.
