I see a lot products have honey in them now a days. cereals, almonds, pretzels, green teas, etc. I was wondering if honey is healthy or not?

very healthy

I remember hearing about some divers that were put on a honey diet and it made them strong enough to dive to a previously inaccessible wreck
>> Anonymous
treat it like sugar. It's not really healthy
>> Anonymous
Not just very healthy but consuming honey made in your local area is even better. The bees that collect the honey use the pollens that usually aggravate allergies. Consuming them in the honey is a homeopathic remedy because it helps the body to build up it's defenses against the allergies.

Thats great guys, but its mostly fructose and glucose.

Eat too much of it, just like sugar, and you're going to be a fatass.

honey is good as a natural sugar substitute. It's not processed or refined, which is good from what i understand.

how are some sugars better than others? including hfcs. I've read that some have better carb to sugar ratios, but I never learned to biology nor chemistry.

they aren't.
There is no difference between consuming fructose, lactose, honey or refined sugar in view of overall calories and fat storage.
It's all just sugar.

then why do people bitch about high fructose corn syrup so much?

GO AWAY AND TAKE YOUR STUPID WITH YOU

Yes, but you ARE going to consume some sugar, so it might as well be from beneficial sources, such as fruits and honey, with its antibacterial properties.

Because its introduction into foods has been clearly linked to obesity, and because it supposedly is more likely to be stored as fats than other sugars.

>'Research has shown that "high-fructose corn syrup" goes directly to the liver, releasing enzymes that instruct the body to then store fat! This may elevate triglyceride (fat in blood) levels and elevate cholesterol levels. This fake fructose may slow fat burning and cause weight gain. Other research indicates that it does not stimulate insulin production, which usually creates a sense of being full. Therefore, people may eat more than they should. Indications also are that the important chromium levels are lowered by this sweetener which may then contribute to type 2 diabetes. Obesity is a contributor too.'

more sugar info i found to add to this guy's.

Sucrose is a dextrose and a fructose molecule bound togheter. So it contains half fructose. And fructose is the quickest way OUT of ketosis. That's because fructose is processed by the liver (into dextrose, actually) and then preferentially used to refill liver glycogen (which is what kicks you out of keto). It's also a SLOW process so it beats the purpose of PWO carbs anyway.

What you want in your PWO shake is something that will raise insulin quickly and for a short time, so your protein is quickly transported into your muscles. The single best thing to do that is pure DEXTROSE, which goes directly into the bloodstream without processing.

[Maltodextrin is a bunch of dextrose molecules bound togheter in "chunks" of various sizes, mixed with a little proportion of pure dextrose. (If the proportion is too high, they can't call it maltodextrin and have to use the name "glucose syrup"). So maltodextrin CAN do the job if you don't have pure dextrose handy, but it's just a little slower (like... 10% slower) to enter bloodstream. That's because the "chunks" first have to be broken down into dextrose molecules, which begins with salivation and ends in the stomach.]

It is also in almost every single processed food product imaginable. Its not terrible in and of itself but due to the vaast quantities Americans consume, it all adds up.

Also its terrible for the environment. lol

Read, there are clear differences in how the body reacts to and digests different sugars.

http://www.westonaprice.org/modernfood/highfructose.html

example.

honey contains shitloads of different kinds of sugar. but it still can be used as a healthier substitute for processed sugar because it contains vitamins, dietary minerals and so on.
>> Anonymous
The differences are neglectable.
Sure they differ in small aspects and are digested in different ways, but overall outcome is that it's sugar.

SUUUUUUUUUUGAAAAAAAAARRRRR.

every person should eat about 5kg of honey every year

keeps the doctor away!

also gives extra strength (obligatory for astronauts and divers)
