hello FIT

I started running about 4 weeks ago, running ~4-5km around 4 times a week. My knees have started to hurt a bit recently when I run, just a bit of pain when I put pressure on the knee. This is on both. My shoes are pretty good they are new balance 620's. Is this normal when starting out or am I doing it wrong? and what should I do about it.

It's normal starting out and can persist if you your stride is too short (more impact on the knee), have improper shoes, or maybe cruddy nutrition not helping your joints recover. It's understandable to run slower and have a shorter stride in the beginning of course and long runs will have that effect but if it persists after rest try the running faster for shorter method.

Running shouldn't hurt. Your form might be wrong
Try running on soft ground, like grass or sand and try going barefoot for a change. Or shoes with less cushioning. Let your feet take more impact so the knees wont have to

Try to strike the ground with your mid-foot, don't run heel to toe.

Injury can happen at any distance, and any speed. Practice form first, distance or speed come after.

I recommend checking out 'ChiRunning' or 'Posetech' for information on injury free running style.
