sit-ups tiggernits
I've been working out for a about a year now, and I'm pleased about no longer being a rail thin hipster scarecrow. I want to build more muscle on my chest and arms, but I'd like to keep my abs the size they are and just make them more defined.
In lifting to archive this you'd do less weight and more reps. But I can't think of a way to translate that into a sit-up routine. I normally do 3 sets of 50 sit-ups 3-4 times a week.
Should I do 5 sets of 30 crunches? (lol)
Also I've been feeling a kink in my spine, as if my vertebra are scraping together about 8 inches above my ass crack. I have a feeling that my hours of being hunched over studying and introduction of heavy weight work on my previously untrained body last year may have damaged my back. Is there any way to tell if I should see a chiropractor? (p.s. starting tomorrow I'm planning on doing crunches instead of sit-ups because they don't seem to cause that sensation.)

no, not really. the abs are the least responsive muscle in the body to hypertrophy. there is not a lot you can do about it.

cutler and coleman are fucking enormous men to begin with. they also take a lot of steroids and have bloated growth-hormone guts, which is probably what you're mistaking for huge abs; their stomachs are distended.

if you're adding resistance to ab movements then most of the work is being done by the hip flexors. there are only a couple of ways to isolate the abs proper and according poliquin they permenantly plateau after six weeks.

what's more, the rest of your post is not correct. different muscles respond to different stimuli differently, due to different purposes and fibre types. abs are postural muscles and respond to a wide range of stimuli. so both approaches will actually work.

and raage? i love you raaage
