Hey guys,

I've been following the rippetoe lifting routine for the last 3-4 months and have kept my diet nutrient intake as 40/40/20 of Carbs/Protein/Fat.
I'm going to be fasting for the next 20-30 days for religious reasons, and I want to keep working out or at least making positive gains on my fitness and appearance. I was going to be having two meals for the day, one before I go to work at 8 am, and one at 8 pm with no food or water in between.I was therefore hoping to get some advice on two things.

1. What sort of exercising should I be doing for the next 30 days? Continue lifting? If so, should I be doing high reps with low weight, or vice versa?
Alternatively, should I forego the weightlifting entirely and get involved in doing cardio-type activities exclusively, or what?
2. For whatever exercise routine you think is better, what sort of diet for the two meals would compliment it the most? High protein? High Carb? 40/40/20 Carb/Protein/Fat, or what?

Any and all advice would be very greatly appreciated!

HIIT is always the answer.

Just use the athlete excuse so you don't have to stop eating. OR, just reduce your training volume by 2/3's. You only need to be doing 1/3 volume to maintain strength levels. So for Starting Strength, just lift once a week to stay at around the same level of strength you were before the fasting period. Strength will probably drop off a little, but not as much if you just quit lifting entirely.

If he's not going to be taking in that much anyway, it'd probably be better for him to cut rather than trying to maintain bulk.

Who's bulking? Rippetoe's is a strength routine last time I checked. He's going to be cutting anyways by the nature of the eating schedule, might as well maintain strength instead of losing progress.

Is there a better routine out there gera towards bulking?

Also, OP, how do you plan on making positive gains if you arnt eating :/

Lots of programs out there that are better for hypertrophy, although 3x5 is a good compromise between pure strength and some mass gain.

Well, like I said and the pic elaborates, it's a religious thing. I just want to be able to make the most out of a situation I have to go through.

You WILL shrink OP. I'm sorry but you can't really avoid catabolism while you're fasting. All you can do (assuming you're Islamic and allowed to eat at breakfast) is have a big breakfast with a protein shake, and minimize activity.

I'd lift lightly around 3 times a weak, but not to failure. You'll be weaker than usual.

Have fun!

Keep the same diet. Stuff all the food in. If possible, do your workout about an hour after a meal. Don't worry about catabolism, it's not going to be as bad as people make it out to be. You might want to google intermittent fasting for more info.
