Hey /fit/, how do you motivate yourself to go to the gym? It seems that it's hard to "get into it" no matter how often I go. Do you use a reward system etc?
Pic unrelated :)

Get a partner/workout buddy. Makes all the difference.

i use pure RAGE.....i dunno, i guess i do it so much that it becomes a habit...when i stop running for a while i litterally miss even though im lazy, it feels like a cigarette craving (i can ignore it but i still want to go)

weird thing is after stopping my exercise regime i literally get really sore in my muscles...kinda like withdrawal lol

aside from that is the thought that i will be healthier...family histry of bad hearts and that when im older i won't be feeble and can't do shit.

Make missing the gym the biggest mistake of the day. I can't fucking pissed if I can't go to the gym.

Lots of unhealthy and stressful ways listed..

I'm not sure when it happened, but going to the gym for me now is better than an energy drink. I go to the gym before work, and if I miss it, I feel really sluggish and slow at work where if I go to the gym I feel all loosened up and energetic.

I go to the gym because it makes me feel better.

I convinced myself that I'll get fat if I don't. Not healthy, but it keeps me going. Hoping to be able to go like four times a week instead of everyday when I finish dropping fat.

I started going to the gym about 3 mo's ago, and I can say there are two things that have kept me wanting to go.

1)Friends, you push them to go, and they push you to go, makes it more of a competition as to who can get better results..
2) Results, because looking great is always fucking great motivation..

I get motivated by looking at my lazyfuck friends.
Also by pictures of fit people and progress pictures.

Workout buddy helps alot as well, but I don't have a steady one.

i just want to be strong and look good. What more motivation do you need? If those aren't important to you then why even bother trying to convince yourself to go?
>> Anonymous
i'm motivated by results

also my self-motivation motivates my friends, who's motivation motivates me. We talk about our progress, articles we've read and such and it always gets me in the mood to head to the gym even though I've already done my workout.

At first it was the motivation so I could enlist. After I left, it became habit.

And the fact that I can lift reasonable sized weights, or run a marathon, or cover two and a bit km in a few minutes? Big inducement to keep going.

It would be much better for you if you didnt overthink it like this. Just go into the gym and start lifting, i usually just zone out completely while working out.

As Ronnie would say: "theres nothing to it but to do it"

A while back I decided that I wanted to be the best person I could be so I got off my ass and started doing shit to accomplish that goal. That includes working out and higher education.

If you can't "get into" the gym, stop going! Seriously, just do exercises at home instead.

associate something you enjoy with the gym (ie : listen to music you enjoy at the gym) after a few sessions, if you chose the right music, it should feel like dancing. after a few weeks, it will have positive reinforcement, as you see yourself become better. After that, it's all easy.
