I had them on my lower gut, hips, and arms from losing over 100 lbs. They got slightly worse from getting into weight lifting (properly) and suddenly gaining muscle.
If you're in great shape, noone's really going to care. I just tell people I got them from wrestling with Great White Sharks in Hawaii or my part-time job as an undercover diamond smuggler in Sierra Leone. They're about as bad as 122922's, but over the course of over a year or two, they've faded a little bit. Putting muscle on in the stretched areas helps too. I've asked a few dermatologists, and there's really nothing they can do short of you spending several thousand dollars for laser treatment over several months for little or no results.
tl;dr, they're permanent, but fade a little over time. But there's other more important things to worry about regarding aesthetics.
