calisthenics vs. weights Anonymous
I've been into lifting weights for awhile but just turned to calisthenics recently and found that I've actually put on more pounds of muscle doing the more strenuous body weight exercises such as muscle-ups on bar, handstand push-ups, pseudo-planche push-ups, swinging dips, weighted dips, weighted chin-ups and push-ups, bar leg raises and of course all the more average exercises.

Which does /fit/ prefer between the two?

pic is me, i'm not as cut as i should be since i don't do any cardio atm

you mean plyometrics

weighted dips, weighted chinups are listed as weight training excercises.

it sounds like you were doing alot of isolation type excercises, but only just switched over to these more compound excercises? compound excercises will pack on more muscle than regular isolation lifts like curlz.

Isolation exercises? Are you high? Push-ups, dips and chin-ups are the prime examples of compound exercises.

OP you're doing fine the way you are. I myself prefer weights but that's just because I'm a pussy when it comes to body weight exercises. Maybe that'll change one day

thats not plyometrics -_-
bodyweight exercises can be good but you'll reach a point where you'll need to add weight to keep the resistance up. That said, most people can't do hardcore bw exercises like planchepressups or even pistol squats because they're pussies

Military-style calisthetics suck, but gymnastic-style body weight training is excellent. Although I prefer lifting weights. It's more accessible, there aren't too many qualified gymnastic coaches who are willing to teach a 25 year old man. BTW, I can't wait for Coach Sommer's book to come out, if anyone is interested here's his site: http://www.gymnasticbodies.com/
