Am I doing something wrong here? Anonymous

I'm trying to lose weight since I've been extremely out of shape for a long time and I'm trying out HIIT right now. However, usually when I do it my legs start burning until I can't go any further, and the next day it feels like I tore something in my calves or hamstring. Is this normal?

Theres been improvement in my aerobic ability since I used to only run 11 minute miles at my best times, and now I can do 10 min without much effort.

How long does it take the pain to go away?

It's normal.

Keep working your legs until you feel that you absolutely need to rest, and then continue your workout when they start to feel a bit more rested. Overworking your muscles will do more harm than good, and it's best to take things slow if you're incredibly out of shape and have been for a long time.

OP here
The immediate burning goes away after around 5 to 10 minutes
Then the next day when something does tear or whatever, it heals within a day or two. Usually by day 2 I can feel a knot but it doesn't really hurt, but before that theres a slight pain when I try to move it and it gets a lot worse, like its going to cramp when I run.

warm up more next time. You should spend 20mins stretching and doing dynamic stuff with your legs like skipping or switch lunges.

It means your muscles are responding to the exercises.
