I smoked for two years.
That's not a really long time, but it's long enough to have done some damage to my lungs. I've started running to try and get some of the lung mass back, and swimming, and stuff like that. Are there any other ex-smokers here who've gotten back a somewhat reasonable lung capacity, endurance, etc.?

Most of the time, for every five years you smoke, a year without smoking and your lungs will be normal again.
This of course bars any major problems like cancer and large-scale physical damage to the lungs.

I smoked for about three years and quit the exact day I started exercising/doing cardio. I rebounded extremely quickly, in terms of endurance. Like, literally the first 3 days were all hacking and wheezing and my HR was through the roof, and then it dropped off a ton after that.

/fit/ in a fucking nutshell right there.

Oh, btw, the great thing about quitting smoking and starting exercising is that the endorphins from exercise pretty much jump in and take the place of the endorphins you used to get from smoking. Prepare to actually literally get addicted to exercise.

Yeah, I absolutely am already. I always used to hate working out, I totally love doing pushups and crunches and running now. Thanks for the advice man :D
