Dear /fit/

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, but I figure it can't hurt. For the past few months, I've been having a hard time falling asleep at night. A few times a week, I've had to take Nyquil or some of the Vicodin I have left over from my wisdom teeth surgery earlier this summer if I wanted to sleep at all.

I'm considering seeing my doctor and getting a script for some actual sleep aid (ambien?). However, I don't want to do anything that will, in the future, limit my ability to have affordable insurance. I'm male, 20 years old in October. Would getting a prescription for a sleep aid at this young an age label me as a risk to insurance/HMO groups? And what are the possible health ramifications of getting one? Should I keep doing as I have been, or is ambien a better choice?

Ambien is actually fairly addictive when it comes to not being able to sleep without it. Don't believe what the commercials tell you, it's effects focus on the same GABA areas as the benzodiazapines which have been absolutely demonized in the media, while at the same time having less side effects than the extremely popular anti-depressants pushed by the pharm companies. True, seizure is a risk with benzo's, however, it rarely happens, especially in todays world. In any case, what im saying is, just buy some marijuana or drink a few beers, don't trust the pharm companies. The dollar is the bottom line in any business, and that's exactly what health 'care' is.
