/fit/, I've started running about two weeks ago for the first time. Well, no, not running. I go .1 mile at 3mph, then 6.5 mph until 2.5, then 3 mph until 3.5, then 6 mph until 4.5, 3 mph until 5.5, and it just goes like that until I've done a mile, which I just go at 3mph until 30 minutes.

I'm overweight, I have never ran before, or done any sports for that matter. At first, my legs got tired as hell. I've noticed my legs don't get as tired, but rather, I simply can't breathe to get enough air, and I tire out and have to walk again. What do I do to be able to breathe easily without breathing so hard and getting tired?

you train.
Your heart and oxygen system is not used to work.
You have to train these by constant and sensible training.
Your stamina will get better with time.
>> Anonymous
oh yes, loosing weight helps too, cause it takes away workload from your heart.

If I continue to do this for every night, how long do you think it'll take to get some more stamina?

depend on your body's ability to adapt

start slow...increase your intensity so taht you achieve the same level of exhaustion in the same amount of time.

a few months you will be running. A few years you will be running races. Good luck

I'm no jogging expert, but inform yourself about:
- proper shoes; don't ruin your knees.
- proper training methods; don't overdo it, joggers check their heart frequency.
- rest periods; you muscels need rest to rebuild.

The shoes I use are the only ones I own. they look like the pic, but they're just black.

If you're a fatty, make sure you shox or something like that, that'll take the shock when you land instead of your knees.

While doing running shoes, you want to look for the really light and thing soled shoes that only have enough rubber to keep you from stepping on glass or something. These shoes emulate barefoot running and it relieves stress and is much more conducive to running.

Not OP here.

Would running barefoot on a treadmill be a better choice over running with shoes?
>> Anonymous
Well, I'm confused. What shoes do I get then?

get good arch support, and I regress, got shox if your a fatty, or you'll do irreparable damage to your knees.
>> Anonymous
Also consider that shoes wear out every couple of hundred kms you run.

Whats a good alternative to shox? They're really expensive, and people who wear them around here usually get made fun of.

Hell no, wear shoes. Just go at some moderate pace, like 6-7MPH for a mile. Walk a bit and do it again. You don't want to be start-stopping. The longer you sustain a decent heart rate, the faster you lose fat.

*for a mile

I can't maintain 7 mph for more than a damn minute. I just get tired. There's partly the fact that I have never run, I have crappy shoes (the pic is seen in this thread to what they look like), and well... Yeah, I'm fat.

Don't be hard on yourself. Get tired, and do it again. Every time you do it, push yourself a little more. It's mind over matter, to an extent, do not let the fact that you're currently overweight stop you from doing something about it.

Push yourself.

Running is approximately 20% conditioning, 80% willpower.

No matter what, you're gonna feel sore and tired while you run, and your muscle may feel like they're burning, but you just need to keep your legs moving and take it like a man.

Unless, of course, you feel sharp pains in the arch of your foot, your ankle, or your knee.

But I just can't if I can't breathe. Also, I don't see how you overcome pain. I really hate all those sayings like "No pain, no game." If I fucking hurt, I can't do it. But pain in my legs isn't as much as a problem as breathing right now for me.

Then enjoy being a fatty?
Seriously quit bitching

OP, don't get discouraged. Seriously though, running without building up your joints first can destroy your knees. Try some ellipticals first.

I would suggest walking until you build up some stamina, Its much more enjoyable, gives your knees a break and will remove the weight just as quickly if you give yourself a little more time per walk.
