Hello /fit/, I come asking a question about milk and milk products, specifically full fat vs. reduced fat/skim.

In particular, I've heard some research that using full fat milk products is associated with a greater reduction of triglyceride count and body fat loss than skim milk products. It's believed this is because one of the fatty acids found in milk is conjugated linoleic acid and CLA seems to have a positive effect on body fat loss.

I'm a male, 18 years old, 5' 10" and 160 pounds. I have slightly below normal blood pressure, good cholesterol, in good general health. My question is, assuming I keep overall daily caloric intake constant, should I switch to full fat milk products? Right now I eat a great deal of skim milk, low fat cottage cheese, and fat free yogurt.

Thanks for your time.

Milk is for babies. Are you a baby? Then don't drink milk.

I like milk.

IGF-1 in milk fucks with your hormones. This is why if you have any sort of post pubescent hormonal problems (acne, other skin issues, dandruff, metabolism issues, glucose/insulin sensitivity, various allergies, diabetes-like symptoms) milk could very well be the culprit. Cut that shit out and get soy milk and if you use whey isolate get soy protein shakes. It tastes awesome, in the current market is often cheaper than milk, has tons of protein, and will absolutely make you healthy.

Milk is good for you. I do 2% milk because it has more protein, but whole milk is good because the Vitamin D is more absorbable. I try taking CLA with a meal a day in addition to consuming extra dairy.

Do what you want, hell, even experiment with adding or subtracting different foods to/from your diet.

bullshit.
just as nonsense as those idiots that say soy milk contains estrogen.
Here's the truth to it all: JUST EAT AND DRINK WHATEVER YOU LIKE.

Milk does have hormones, but so does milk from any other mammal. It's natural. IGF is only in the bloodstream of the cow, antibiotics are what you gotta worry about.

Besides, soy milk tastes like shit. The real deal = better.

But soy DOES contain estrogen... it's been tested, dumbfuck. Just not in the dosages that would matter.

No, not bullshit. Replacing all dairy in my diet with soy and other alternatives got rid of my oily skin and I noticed a marked increase in my energy and attentiveness. I was already eating healthy for months, but decided to try dairy free. In all seriousness, the actual healthiest diet you could go on is a nutrient rich, protein rich, low GI diet of a diabetic. For anybody, athletes, people wanting to lose weight, people wanting to gain weight, it's all based around a few core principles, and milk is far far less important than you realize. It's only real benefits are calcium and vitamin d, and you can get those from a variety of things, including soy milk.

so I've been drinking milk all my live and did not have acne.
In fact, acne has nothing to do with diet and that's a proven fact.

This. I prefer what I want to drink. Soy milk isn't superior to regular milk (remember the vegan parents who killed their child by denying it the breast milk it needs?) but if you have any qualms with drinking a cold glass of milk then go enjoy your soy milk.

OP here:

Sorry guys I didn't mean to cause a flamewar, lol. My diet is pretty heavy in lean protein and fiber (a decent amount of complex carbs), and I don't get much fat at all... about 15-25 grams/day, with tuna fish being the only consistent source of Omega-3 fatty acids. I do take a supplement.

So you guys think drinking soy milk would be better? With the fat? Because I'm reading around and it seems like it has a better fatty acid profile than whole milk. I have no qualms about including soy in my diet.

I don't have any of that... I drink a lot of milk, too.

It's natural for nursing infants who cannot chew or digest real food yet, not for grown mammals. There is nothing natural about being more than a few years old and drinking milk. Nowhere else in the animal kingdom does this happen. Most mammals will die of starvation before they will drink the milk of their females once they are no longer nursing.

most mammals do not have to support a brain our size. Human food is completely artificial anyway, in every sense.
That apple you eat? It's a product of selective breeding or some thousand years.

It's not proven. The studies so far have all been faulty. The 'landmark' study is the one from 1969 which had two groups of people eating chocolate (one cocoa free and one very rich in cocoa) that yielded no difference between the two groups. What they failed to tell you is that both set of chocolate had milk, sugar, and all the other things in a bar of chocolate in the 60's.

Acne is either bacterial or hormonal, and usually a combination of both. Your topicals can eliminate the P. Acnes bacteria all you want, but they will not calm your testosterone to DHT conversion (which causes your sebaceous glands to freak). The latest research indicates that acne comes from a variety of places in a variety of manners, everything from the food you eat, to the amount of sleep you get, to your grandparents' puberty.

Enclosed is a chart made by a 3rd year med student on a board I found that has taken all of these studies (Wikipedia 'acne' for links to some of them including the milk one) and combined them into a flow chart.

Say what you will, but by making subtle changes to my life and diet, I got rid of my acne and eventually my oil, which used to be so bad I could use one of those blotter sheets up in 90 minutes.

I'm talking about infant mammals with the soy vs. milk for kids

It is odd that we like to drink milk from other animals, though. I just enjoy milk.

good lord, if something simple is explained so complicatedly, it must be right, right?
WROOOOOOONG!
Never seen so much bullshit on one chart.
What helped you was changing to a healthy lifestyle, that's all.
Acne is easy to treat with a) BPO and b) correct washing products.

The milk that you drink and that sometimes comes in bags somewhere, is an industrial product that has little to do with real milk.
If you ever tried fresh milk, you'd know that it makes you puke, shit, gag and puke and shit.
The bacteria it contains are enough.

>>104664

that is silly. to support a brain our size, you need milk? lol wut

By your measure, everything in the world is artificial. Also, that is irrelevant to whether or not it's good for you. I'm not one of those people who eats fucking dry granola and wheat grass shakes for breakfast because it comes from mother earth.

I've just done the research, and I know, from personal experience, that my body responds MUCH better to a dairy free diet, and I know dozens of people who are the same way.

And, I'm not saying that drinking milk intrinsically causes acne, because health is not like that. The biology of humans isn't really an exact science. Some things work for some people and others work for others, and we have no idea why. I'm just saying, if you have acne (or any of the other problems listed) and you've tried everything and failed, why not take a month and eliminate milk from your diet and see how it goes. Worst case scenario, you have a big appetite for all your favorite dairy. Best case, your skin improves.

Fresh milk is gross lo. The industrial product (pasteurized, sweetened, fortified) is excellent.

Wrong. I was on 4 different brands of Benzoyl Peroxide and a various prescribed cleansers for 7 years. I went through 3 different antibiotics, laser treatments, and two courses of Accutane, in which my acne came back within weeks of each.

I started to take hormone balancing supplements (Saw Palmetto, Evening Primrose, Omega 3), cut out dairy, and eat healthier and my acne cleared within weeks.

Say what you will, but I know what worked.

no, you do not need milk, but you need a lot of protein, fat and carbs.
Which happens to be in milk.
Which happens to be why smart humans suddenly had the idea to drink milk as an easy source of nutrition.

Milk is not for everybody.
Lactose intolerance? Milk allergy? A good chunk of the population just does not have the stomach for it.
No reason to make the milk sour for those who happen to like it.
UDDERS, I SUCK THEM! and they are nice to fondle.
