i was in your situation about a year and a half ago (6' 210), simple lifestyle changes really melt the pounds away. I watched what I ate, had a breakfast every morning, cut out soda and alcohol completely, took my coffee black. Started running 3 miles every other day, did pushups, cruches, squats, dumbell curls. In 3 months I dropped down to 170.
I've actually lost more weight since then, i think that is due to moving to the city, i do a lot more walking and biking than I did back in the jersey suburbs, i've stopped running, i'm now at 155. As for diet i'm drinking soda and alcohol again and I eat like I did before i lost the weight, my body just seems to blast through it with the new muscles i added over the year.
