form for pullups/chin ups, how far apart should my hands be? better to lift legs or leave them straight?
>> Anonymous
If you lift them straight out at the waist it makes the up harder, and thus a better workout.

I was in your boat a few months ago. I did some research and found some kinesiology papers published in various places (JAMA or something) by maybe Harvard Med (but could have been Johns Hopkins instead) which reported findings that, between the four options (1) narrow regular regular grip, (2) wide regular, (3) wide behind-the-head, and (4) reversed grip narrow, the one that caused the most muscle activity was the wide regular grip.

That is what I've been doing lately, but I'm cutting, not bulking, right now, so I don't expect to see huge gains.

isn't it the further apart your hands are, the more it works your pectoral muscles rather than your biceps?

Beginning: Place your hands on a straight bar, about shoulder length apart, maybe an inch or two past.

Advanced: Place your hands on a straight bar, as far apart as you can.

Legs: Either straight down or bent behind you, generally.

Also: Neutral grip. This is a close grip, with your hands grabbing those special handles that are perpendicular to your body. Like a hammer curl grip. Do these too.

You're thinking of push ups, I think.

Pull ups hit the lats.
