If you just shock your body by switching your diet that drastically it will go into a sort of survival mode where instead of using body fat for energy it will feed on your muscles instead. If you are doing this for weight loss i would suggest easing youself into a diet and exercise program.
People have been fasting for thousands of years but it served as a sort of detoxification, not weight loss. Instead of having to concentrate on getting rid of all the toxins in foods you eat, during a fast your body can get rid of all the toxin build-up and damaged tissues. This is why Asians are famed for their longetivity... many oriental religions include fasting.
When you suddenly fast your body will start breaking down damaged muscle tissue for energy and start removing toxins from your organs (s/a liver/kidneys). Be sure to drink ALOT of water and take large doses of vitamin C. Sweating induced by exercise or hyperthermia will help rid your body of the toxins as well. Expect to have acne, bad body odor and potent smelling feces as a result of your fast. Do not fast for more that 72 hours.
