sup /fit/, I'm a 18 year old decathlete. Or at least I was, I'm going to a very large college now and the track team here was not interested in me. In a decathlon with high school implements I was able to score over 6000 points.

So right now I'm coachless, and I really don't know how to continue with my training. I'm still developing physically (I can barely grow facial hair), and I believe I have a lot of room for improvement, my hope is to turn myself into a better athlete and try out for the track team some time.

My biggest problems as an athlete are my upper body strength and distance running ability. I'm 6' 1'', 170 pounds, and I LOOK like I have a strong upper body, but I can only bench 200 pounds at the most. I weightlifted all during high school, so I know what I'm doing, I just never get stronger.

Also, I am an absolutly pathetic distance runner, and I can't explain why. I'm strong enough to sprint a 400m in under 52 seconds, But I can't break 6 minutes in the mile.

Theres a gym about 5 minutes away from my dorm, I go there at least twice a week but i'm usually just doing some random lifts, and theres plenty of room to run around here, it's just kind of humiliating having girls pass me when I run.

I guess what I'm hoping for is that some one can pretty much tell me what kind of lifts and sets I should be doing, and if there's any way I can improve my mile time other than just racking up lots of mileage.

thanks, and picture kind of related

meh, I actually got a lot stronger during high school, just never as strong as my friends who worked equally hard.

There is only one way to improve your long-distance running: that is doing long-distance running.

I think you need over 9000 points.

you may have a lack of testosterone

it would make sense with the lack of facial hair and lack of muscular progress I guess

I have quite a bit of upper body muscle mass, it's just not very powerful, my legs are pretty strong though, so I don't know if this would have to do with testosterone.

Took a look at this, would doing intervals be more helpful at dropping my mile times or is just getting lots of mileage the way to go? Also, what kind of pace/distances should I try to run distance in? Running at 10 minute pace for 4 miles kills me.

I do lots of squats.
Also, I never realized how much protien is in oatmeal. I've been eating baked beans, eggs, and drinking a ton of chocolate milke every day. I think i'm going to add oatmeal to my breakfast

Allow me to ask, what the fuck is a decathlon?

Is it like a pentathlon only twice as long?
