Hey /fit/ I started going here when the board first started and have since continued going to the gym and eating healthy. It's been around 3-4 months now, but I can't be certain. I've cut out almost all bad foods and I run 2 miles and fast-pace walk another 2 miles twice a week and I've been seeing little to no results. The only difference is around my shoulders and my neck, got rid of most of my double chin. How long 'till the man-boobs are gone completely and the stomach stops jiggling when I go down a staircase?

I'm 6"5' (not kidding) and around 245 lbs.

Pic unrelated.

Why do you come here if you don't even listen to these good people's wonderful advice?

bump. I know these posts are annoying but I have nobody else to go to.

I listened, when I first came they said the only way to get rid of the fat is cardio, and I've cardio'd the shit outta myself. I don't need muscles, I just don't want to be fat any more.
>> Anonymous
What about HIIT? Or a strength training program?
>> Anonymous
So are you working out with weights and shit at the gym or are you just running? Maybe you could try working your abs and chest area a little more.

And embrace your manboobs and stomach jiggle. They'll come in handy one day. I guarantee it.

>>158554
You don't want to be skinny and have no muscle.

Trust me.
>> Anonymous
>>158565
I don't want to be skinny. I used to work on my arms and chest but then decided to focus on cardio. I suppose I could add in some weight stuff. Any suggestions to a routine would be fantastic.
>> Anonymous
>>158570
clarifying the not wanting to be skinny.

I want to be healthily fit. I don't want to jiggle. I also don't want to be skinny. Fuck that shit.
>> Anonymous
>>158570

Do some HIIT and alternate between powerlifts and olympic lifts. Or, if you don't really know how to do those lifts, go get Starting Strength and read it.

if you're bored you could give this a try:

Are you screaming your lungs out while you're doing all this cardio? I heard great results from the rest of /fit/.
>> NazHax !!fBSG7DdxGcU
if you don't want to jiggle, you need some weight-training.

I'm 6'3", 250 ... I need to lose a little weight... but I don't jiggle.

Okay, now my problem is that. Weight training is virtually impossible at the gym I go to. Usually all of the freeweights are taken, with a large group of people waiting to use them. They have very few free weights, but tons of the weight machines. From what I hear here the machines are complete and utter shit. What do I do? Can I just use the machines?

Oh god.

I think you just need to try harder. Get to the gym earlier. Run more. Eat healthier.

Well, given that the average height for most ages and races is under 6', I'd say it's a valid point.

HOLY FUCK FINALLY

EVERYONE ON /FIT/ NEEDS TO READ THAT FUCKING ARTICLE SO I CAN STOP TEARING MY HAIR OUT.
>> Anonymous
>>159161
youre a faggot if you actually believe that
>> Anonymous
>>159161

I've actually read the same mindset from a different article. That's a 2fer against cardio. Funny thing is it only took 1 for me to quit cold turkey. I'M NOT BALLOONING IN FAT EITHER.
>> Anonymous
>>159177
hows thats 2 hours on the treadmill treating you?

10lbs of fat and big.
down to
10lbs of fat and small.
>> Anonymous
OP, just start up a weight program for yourself. You can do almost all the upper body stuff with an adjustable bench and three sets of dumbells. Leg day, just do squats. Don't be afraid to "work in" your routine, especially when you see some fags sitting around chatting while on the equipment. just say"hey, mind if I work in?" NOBODY has the sack, or the nerve to say no.

>>159148
worst comedian ever. i see the joke, but where the punchline?
>> Anonymous
>>159204
"Cardio' doesnt raise metabolism for an extended period afterwards either. Not other than the repair response to muscular damage induced... you know, like you would've achieved better and more efficiently from one set of barbell squats!? The only studies showing a measured raise in metabolic rate were in endurance athletes and sedentary people. People who's muscles are traumatised by running/walking/riding. NOT heavy squatters!

When cardio does cause muscle trauma in weight trainers, the result is compromised recovery and muscle growth. And remember if you lose muscle you are relatively fatter than if you had kept that muscle."

seriously tho, where the punchline? because is completely wrong in so many ways she should be shot.
>> Anonymous
>>159209

she is right.
i have read many similar articles written by John Berardi, Christian Thibaudeau, Alwyn Cosgrove, Eric Cressey, etc.

all the big names with phds and shit.

where did you get your information? turbo jam?

how the fuck is cardio going to give me a better workout than heavy weightlifting.
>> Anonymous
>>159218
with what regard? building muscle? you dont run to build muscle. but to say "CARDIO DOES NOTHING UNLESS YOUR FAT LOL" is like saying the earth is flat. and my information? fucking everyone. and specifically my fitness coach whos a chiropractor and phd in sports medicine / professional rugby player.
>> Anonymous
>>159218

prove the article wrong, you can't. She brings up so many points that all you can simply say is "this is a joke, author is a fag".

this article is fucking true. and the fitness industry would be fucked if people knew this, because you would actually have to learn how to teach people to properly lift weights before being a PT, which no entry level cert does.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-intensity_interval_training

"Studies by Tabata[1], Tremblay[2] and others have shown this method to be more effective at burning fat and maintaining, or building, muscle mass than high-volume, lower intensity aerobic work-outs. According to a study by King [3] , HIIT increases the resting metabolic rate (RMR) for the following 24 hours due to excess post-exercise oxygen consumption, and may improve maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max) more effectively than doing only traditional, long aerobic workouts.[4][5][6][7]"

you're welcome.
>> Anonymous
honestly she may have gone too far as to say it's totally useless.

but cardio is a MUCH WORSE way to lose weight than lifting weights.

MUCH
WORSE
>> Anonymous
>>159233

HIIT is just lifting weights with high training density.

sprints are hamstring/glute/quad exercises, the short duration and intensity of them make them more similar to a barbell squat than a 2km run.

tabatas are done with weights, barbells. you still rest and have short bursts/sets/ whatever of work.
>> Anonymous
she also fucking fails for calling a 30 minute walk on the treadmill "cardio" then bashing it. seriously.
>> Anonymous
>>159238
seriously? are you seriously being serious? HIIT isnt just weight lifting. ESPECIALLY in the article about it, its referring to the cardio portion IE on a treadmill.

im going to start calling hitler german, then saying all germans are evil because hitler was evil.

>>159240

HIIT isn't even mentioned in the article.

Ieightlifting isn't just weightlifting either. there is a strong cardio aspect to it as well. you have proved nothing, and actually further reinforced my side of the argument
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
here is some proof. both of these men exercise.

the marathon runner just runs long distances for training

the sprinter lifts heavy weights, squats 500lbs, deadlifts possible, maybe even benches. he does short sprints and doesn't run beyond a length much more than his event specifies.

which has less bodyfat? which has more lean body mass?

so, general consensus. cardiofags have scampered off defeated.

article is win. its good advice
>> Anonymous
>>159276
what advice, to never do cardio ever? Shit, this is like the Atkins of exercise routines.
>> Anonymous
>>159251
YOU JUST SAID THE GUY DOES FUCKING CARDIO

the article posted says no fucking cardio at all, its useless for anything. its retarded advice. you get the same result as your picture, just at the other end of the spectrum, some HUEG man that couldnt sprint 10 yards to save his life.

OP Here

So, yeah. On my gym days I'm going to be adding some of the weight machines to my schedule.

I've also talked a friend of mine into doing HIIT with me at the high school track 3 or 4 times per week(using this as a guide http://weight-loss.fitness.com/weight-loss-through-exercise/10275-clearing-up-hiit-guide-hitt.html). With these two increases, what should my time range for visual improvement be? I know it's different for everyone, but a ballpark range would work fine.
>> Anonymous
the arguement is not that all cardio is bad

the arguement is that long cardio/solid state cardio is bad.

HIIT is a fine form of cardio, but it should NOT be the fucking centerpiece of your training regime. it is a SUPPLEMENT that will AID you.

regardless of your goal, you should be focusing on the barbell squat, deadlift, benchpress/db press, chinup/pullup, row, dip, overhead press. etc

i dont give a fuck if you "dont want to get huge" eat less faggot, it doesn't happen over night. IF you have all the bases covered, ie training your body in all of its basic compound movements. THEN you can AUGMENT your training with hiit on off days.
>> Anonymous
>>159506

if you want to be functional, you have to have strength in all directions of movement.

there are basic movements of the human body:

Pushing.
Pulling.
Squatting.
Hip Extension.

being able to handle your bodyweight or more in these movements is what it means to be functional. HIIT is a secondary aspect to this
