Sup /fit/

I want to know some things about cigarettes. I just happened to have some smokes yesterday after a long time and I happen to be curious about somethings, like

How harmful are they?

At what amount is smoking safe? (like once a week? just a guess)

And how do I not make it an addiction?

I smoke, sure, but I know it'll kill me one day too.

>how harmful are they?
entirely. they'll fuckin' kill you.
>At what amount is smoking safe?
pretty much not at all. I mean, you're not going to die after a few cigarettes but if you have a couple a day it adds up and you'll be wheezing and shit, like five years later.
but wheezing is rad only dudes with big dicks wheeze a lot.
>how do I not make it an addiction?
stop. or have some fucking will power and only have a couple when you're drinking or with mates or whatever.

Don't do it. It's totally faglike and retarded. Yes, it's bad for you. It also pisses off everybody around you 'cuz you make their clothes stink with that burning wad of dried leaves hanging out of your mouth. Freak.

Well, I won't flame like the others, but I will tell you this: quitting sucks. It's hard. And you will definitely find a reason to at some point. The easiest thing to do is to avoid smoking entirely.

As far as how harmful they are, I would rate it way up above a lot of other drugs, just because they seem so innocuous but are incredibly addictive.

What they said: Avoid it entirely. Massively addicted.

I started with, "Oh, just when I'm drinking." Then, "Oh, I drive a lot when I'm tired, I'll smoke to keep myself awake." Then, "Well, I guess when I'm stressed too..."

You'll find reasons for rationalizing why you start smoking more and more, so just don't start. At all.

Not entirely true. I smoked about a pack a week for about a year just to try it and to be cool and stuff and quit cold turkey. Haven't had a smoke since. Quitting helps if you have a goal like getting good at a sport or something. For me I quit for judo.

just quit the fucking nasty ass habit thats not only affecting yourself but anyone around you when you smoke?

Its troublesome that smoking not only makes you look cool, but it gives you such a great opportunity to meet people at smoke breaks or at nightspots. No sarcasm, but sometimes I regret having never taken it up.

Many of the smoking horror stories are greatly exaggerated and government warnings are always very carefully worded. The common malaises are also obtainable from other sources and are usually combinations of lifestyle choice and genetics.

The small particles you cannot see are the worst. When they settle in your lungs, your body cannot remove them like a bacteria or virus, so they are covered in cells and just left sitting there. Almost like a splinter in your lung, for life. These particles are also well known to be associated with asbestos, wood fires, dirty exhausts, fine dust storms, improper engine combustion, unmilled cotton, wheat dust. A filtered cigarette is the healthiest way to smoke because you don't just pour things straight down your lungs.

Most of the chemicals are present in such small quantites that the fire quenches them. Nicotine is not toxic, but addiction becomes more a psychological matter.

Like caffeine, wine, beer, opium, weed, cocaine, slavery, sex, porn, fast food, religion and many others, addiction is all a matter of perspective and changes with times and attitudes.

I don't think slavery has ever been defined as an addiction.

>Nicotine is not toxic

Yes, it is. It's EXTREMELY toxic. It's more toxic than arsenic. 40–60mg (0.5-1.0 mg/kg) is a lethal dosage for adult humans.

Physical addiction and psychological addiction are two different things. Caffeine, cocaine and nicotine all have high physical addiction potential. Weed and religion don't.

So drinking coffee is worse than smoking pot??

There's a study out there that tobacco usage at least once every two weeks is healthy for you. I'm going to search pubmed for this, be back in a few.

i bought a pack and told myself i would only smoke sometimes but now i just cant help myself and i smoke all the time.

i realy love the way it feels but the fact that its going to kill me realy saddens me :(

I'm confused as to why people say tobacco is as addictive (or even more than) cocaine. I've smoked plenty of cigarettes and cigars while out drinking with friends, but I've never felt compelled to smoke more. It's a pathetic little high too. Vastly inferior to a weed induced high. (note: haven't smoked either tobacco or weed in over a year)

I was the same way, for 6 months I was having a ciggarette every two days on average because of my roomates always wanting someone to "hang out with" while they smoked, and then ended up smoking pot twice a week as well. I have never bought cigarettes, and probably never will. I never felt the urge to do it, and only did it when they pulled out their pack and handed me one expecting me to do it

One of them smoked Cloves too, and damn I liked them but yeah same, that was back in 2006 and once I moved I haven't done either

Right so if you have a life threatening disease or a certain type of asthma you can see mild benefits from smoking. Wonderful.
