mate, i've been where you are before...major error on the gym membership though, why didnt you go to where your mates went?
you need to pull your finger out though and stop making excuses, if you want to get fit then its your drive that gets you there, your reasons and your focus. Find something that inspires and motivates you (the attached image is from gym jones, where they trained the cast of 300 - go read up on it, its awesome), read around the subject of fitness and diet. immerse yourself in it and it will become your second nature.
most important is to just start, even if its a few pushups a day - starting is the hardest bit
