i listen to a dream theater on my zune. My top 10 by them for lifting is 1)pull me under 2) sacrificed sons 3) the glass prison 4) home 5) the dark eternal night 6) metropolis 7)endless sacrifice 8) honor thy father 9) under a glass moon 10) erotomania. These are all good progressive rock songs that i love and get me pumped up for lifting. Ill also throw in some alice in chains, pantera, and all that remains.

I don't listen to anything. Workout at home so no shit-gym music. All I hear are the sounds of cars going past, and the birds a-twittering. Don't think I could workout with headphones in, I like to be able to hear if I unconsciously make funny noises.

You're missing out. The article is not a definitive source, but I think almost everyone will agree that music can drive you harder, faster, better and stronger than you could yourself.

Music is also a distraction. I prefer to workout without it so I can focus on form and hitting the right muscles. Music can get you caught up in other unimportant shit such as how much you hate the song, or just distracting you with the song itself.

I sometimes listen to music before to help get me in the right frame of mind, but usually I can manage without because I enjoy exercising so much anyway. I can see benefits of music, but things like tempo etc puts me off and also if somethings got a fast beat then I get into it too much during my rest between sets and end up walking around too much so I don't feel so rested. Generally I just find it pretty distracting because I feel I have to get involved in the music, at the expense of concentration on the exercise.
