Your Liver and You! The Inverted Jogger !E203O4hsXo
Hey /fit/,
Just thought I'd write up some interesting facts for you daily knowledge ingestion.

Today,
The Liver.
Your liver is quite possibly the most important organ in your body. Without it your Heart, Lungs, and Brain would fail. So here are some interesting facts about your liver and how to take care of it!

Your liver is responsible for your metabolism, immune system, and breaking down toxic substances. So it is important to take care of it or you may find yourself feeling sluggish and tired, or suffering from numerous health issues such as jaundice.

The easiest way to take care of your liver, is exactly what this board is about, eating healthy and staying fit. The Liver has a habit of building up fatty deposits that can slow down its ability to do its job, as well as slow down or in some cases cause it to stop regenerating cells, and even cause necrosis. Thankfully your liver can still function until you lose 2/3rds of it. So what does this mean? Eating healthy foods, and keeping a good cardio routine will keep your liver healthy, and if you haven’t been doing this, its not too late to turn things around and make your liver healthy before it is too late. The only known method to heal a diseased or non-functioning liver is a transplant. So keep yours healthy!

Lets look for a moment into how fat deposits end up on the liver so we can know which foods to stay away from! The main way that the liver gets fat deposits is from over consumption of…. Drum roll…. Sugars. But remember, just because its not sugar when you put it in, doesn’t mean it wont become sugar once its processed. This is why alcohol is very bad for your liver as your body converts it into sugars.

Studies show that people who have 2 drinks of alcohol a day are well on a path to liver problems or even liver failure. So then, for those who like to drink, what is a safe amount? Probably one drink every couple of days. Kind of disappointing for you binge drinking college freaks I know. But we are in a modern age where sugar consumption has gone through the roof. This means people you know, all around you, probably have very unhealthy livers, from years of built up misuse of their body.

So if avoiding diabetes wasn’t enough of a reason to cut the sugars, please think of your liver, and don’t forget to exercise. A healthy liver means you’ll feel healthier, more energetic, and you’ll be less susceptible to disease!

Have a healthy day /fit/!

Awesome post.
Btw, would anyone on /fit/ recommend one to take Epsom salt (with water) for laxative purposes? Or do I have to go through the WHOLE detox thing (using lemons, apples, and grapefruit) to get the full liver cleaning effect?

From articles I've read the quickest fix for your liver is cardio. Its a huge reason why they tell diabetics to do it.

Your liver is pretty good at getting rid of toxins on its own so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Fat deposits around the liver are your biggest enemy.

And definitely don't buy any of those liver detox kits. There's no real scientific proof that any of those do anything for your liver. They may make you feel more energetic or what ever, but they probably don't do anything for your liver, despite claiming to.

Okay, thanks.
I've been doing A LOT of cardio lately (and I'm feeling the best I ever have) but I don't digest food that well- and it's not diet related.
I had NO intention of buying a detox kit, as I already have most of the required natural detox ingredients at home (lemons and Epsom salts) AND cause I know they're a rip-off.
Once again, thanks!

As a continuation, just think about it this way. Every drop of your blood passes through your liver like what every 2 minutes?

Cardio increases heart rate which also increases the speed that blood passes through the Liver. So cardio is a pretty good way to get stuff out of your liver. =D
