Toning up and losing 25-30lbs in 3 1/2 months Anonymous
I weigh about 170lbs (5'10" age 24) and my gf weighs 145 (5'6", age 22). We are attempting to cut off weight for a convention thats in 3 1/2 months. I want to get to about 140 and she wants to get to 120.

We have started counting calories and eating properly (fruits veggies) while leaving one day to snack on some unhealthy food (we use mypyramid.gov to track our eating habits).

We have started running 4-5 times a week, starting on timers, planning on moving up to miles once we get our legs back.

We pretty much let ourselves go after highschool and since were done with college, decided enough was enough. However I've never really known much about health so I come to you for advice.

What would be a good health plan in order to meet our weight loss demands and tone up in that short of time? Thanks.

Your running plan along with healthy eating will help, but it won't be enough.

I would suggest throwing in a couple of weight sessions a week to make sure you help maintain muscle mass, you don't want to lose any of that while cutting fat. You don't need to lift like you're trying to bulk up, but do enough to keep all of your muscles active.

Other than that, simply get as much exercise as you can. I would suggest finding some fun two-player sports that you can play that will burn calories and stay entertaining: tennis, badminton, etc. It's not terribly difficult to spend a long time playing a fun sport that keeps you entertained, while you'll be a lot less motivated to just jog for a couple hours every day.

Congrats on making the decision. A lot of people just give up before they ever get to your point.

3 1/2 months is plenty of time to get started. WORD OF ADVICE: Don't worry about the scale, go by the mirror. If you want, take photographs of yourselves in bathing suits or whatever to keep as a reference of where you started. It's a great motivator.

You're going in the right direction WRT diet. Your food diaries will be invaluable. Don't cheat on your diaries; write down everything that you eat.

Encourage each other. The worst part about dieting is that you can't just rip open a box of Twinkies when you get down. There'll be times when each of you wants to use the other as an excuse to say "fuck the Bird's Eye, let's get dinner at Krispy Kreme." Don't give in to that, help each other out.

Don't push too hard at first. If you feel like you're beginning to burn out, back off for a couple days. You've got all the time in the world to progress, there's no rush.

Looking for any specific advice?

We may be able to dedicate weekends to do a all-day fun activity, but weekdays we don't have quite the time due to work.

I'm just trying to make sure that we're doing enough to reach our goals on getting into shape in 3 1/2 months.

Wake up an hour earlier than you do now. Do a half hour of cardio jogging, then a half hour of light weight heavy rep lifting.

When you're both home from work, do an hour of cardio jogging or biking. Every other day, do another hour of light weight heavy rep lifting, then eat.

No need to regulate diet closely, just stay the fuck away from HFCS, fried stuff, greasy stuff, and processed shit. Chow on steaks, healthy burgers, salads, beans, fruits, low sugar smoothies, that sort of thing.

And to keep motivation up give each other massages or something at night to soothe sore muscles.
