ENERGY Anonymous
What does /fit/ think of energy shots in general? If I take these before a workout will I somehow grow a dependency on them? Are there any other better energy alternatives?

They work to make you 'feel' energetic, but a protein shake or juice smoothie is healthier.

the only time you tend to grow dependent/tolerant of energy drinks or w/e is when they contain hugh amounts of stimulants (caffiene, synephrine, etc.). Stims have a direct effect on receptor cells in the body that control the production of noradrenaline, and when they get overstimulated they will begin to need more to continue producing at the same rate (hence why people who drink coffee all the time drink have to drink alot to get a caffiene buzz while the person who never drinks it can have half a cup and be bouncing off the walls.)

5-hour energy isn't too bad because its mostly B vitamins, which are actually fairly good for liver health.

Here: Eat a full meal AND do the energy drink (caffeine is caffeine, so you may as well be drinking coffee). The caffeine will make it easier for you to "start your engine" so to speak so that you'll start burning your carbs and such.

I have a pretty physical job, and the caffeine helps me...

Just remember to stay hydrated because caffeine is a diuretic.

no matter, what energy drink you take, it's not the equivalent of you being healthy and having the energy come from better sources. ie. proper diet, and exercise.. in the short(mean) time.. if you are looking for more energy without a "crash" try to get some breakfast, drink, water, take vitamins, b12,vitamins :) why do you think they have them in there.. (research more)... within a week you should feel a difference.. oh.. and sleep is a huge huge factor.. :).. have fun.. ..
