Hey /fit/, today's the day.

I've been browsing casually for the last few weeks and I've made the decision to put an end to the laziness. I'd consider myself one of the lucky ones, to be able to sit around and be a slob every day of the week and still avoid becoming obese.

Well, I'd like to use this power for good instead of for evil. I just returned from my first jog. It was everything I expected it to be: sickening and pathetic. I did some light stretching beforehand, a short walk to warm up the legs, and then jogged for about 5 minutes before I was too tired to continue. I walked uphill for about 15 minutes after that, and my heart rate stayed pretty high for that entire time; not because walking took effort, but because I was still recovering from the jog. I assume this is fairly normal for someone who has been a vegetable for a few years.

Anyway, I plan on sort of conditioning my muscles for a few weeks before I start HIIT. Is there anything else I can do to prepare? I am 6' and around 175 pounds, I'm hoping to drop the fat (on my stomach and chest mostly) and reach at least 180.

I'd appreciate any tips for my diet and exercises that would help me achieve functional strength. I have a tower with a pull up bar, dip bars, and what I'd guess would be double leg lift..whatever. 25lb dumbells, etc.

I'm sorry to ask for help, I'm just a novice at this sort of thing. A url link would help just as well if you have one.

TLDR I'm going to stop being a lazy slob and want you to tell me how to go about that.
