/fit/, I'd appreciate your best advice and links relating to managing your metabolism.

Mine, at the moment, is problematic. It's highly active and prevents me from gaining weight. I feel pangs of hunger at strange times throughout the day. Sometimes immediately after eating, despite how I may have had a substantial meal moments before and felt comfortably full.

As of now, I'm not entirely sure that I understand how calorie/carb intake is related to metabolism speed. There seems to me to be alot of conflicting evidence on the matter.

On a side note, despite my low-average weight (130 - 140 lbs continually fluctuating, 5'9") and otherwise lean body, my abs aren't visible. When I relax my abs entirely, there's a notable bulge. I don't know my body fat percentage, but I'm assuming it's low because of my overall bodyweight and the decent visibility of all other muscles. I think it may be due to water intake. I don't drink many fluids throughout the day, only during exercise, which is every other day. Is it possible I may be retaining fluid? Related to the metabolism issue?

Pic not related. No shit.

Couple of other notes to help narrow it down:

1) I know for a fact my abs are of an adequate size, if not in pretty good condition. I can feel the solid shape of them just below the skin.

2) I'd be happy with the amount of visibility in the picture. There, but not too shredded.

work on building the rest of your body up, at 5'9" 130-140lbs is pretty skinny. do compound lifts like deadlift, squat, and standing overhead press. they will make you stronger and your abs will get bigger too.

It's true, my gut probably looks off right now due to my general body proportion. But I am working on it. I have a simple weightlifting routine which involves a back (pulling) day, a chest (pushing) day and a leg day. Crunches are done throughout it. I do these in order every other day. Diet is decent too, taking whey supplements to keep up with protein. My meals are usually pretty balanced.

I'm just wondering whether my gains will be affected by my metabolism, how I can go about changing it if it does, etc.
