So /fit/, how do you find the motivation to work out by yourself? I always find when I train with others I am really willing to work myself to exhaustion, but when I work out alone, it just doesnt happen. Any tips? in b4 any of the new /fit/ trolls.

set yourself goals.

I guilt myself into it basically. The problem is starting. Once I've got the weights in my hands there are no real problems and I enjoy it, but sometimes I have to mentally abuse myself till it gets there.

yeah, ill try and set some goals. tbh, i just workout for the sake of working out. ive never thought about anything i want from it other than fitness and a bit of hypertrophy.

haha, nah, im self destroying. if something bores me, no matter how good it is for me i just move on, and working out truly isnt exciting.

I normally set a kind of challenge for myself.

For instance if it's cold out like right now I'll play DDR and if i fail a song i'll do 20 pushups, I'll do this for an hour and it's not a bad workout for just playing a video game for an hour.

1) Working out releases endorphins and makes you feel good. Sucks when you start, but your body gets into it. And once your body is into it, your brain will follow.
2) The point will come when feeling the burn feels gooooood.
3) After a few weeks you will have compelling visual confirmation that working out really does kick ass.

Another motivator: Lift weights in front of a mirror. Seeing your muscles strain and work gives you a direct and immediate indication of what you're doing. It's easy to sometimes feel like you're just swinging metal around if you aren't working with heavy weights, but seeing your muscles work is nice positive reenforcement.
