no, you'll burn quite a few calories at work if you work an 8 hour day on your feet. for your caloric intake, you have to take into acount everything you eat throughout the day.
for your calorie burn, you have to take into acount everything you do during the day, be it sitting, walking, running, lifting boxes or what have you.
http://walking.about.com/library/cal/uccalc1.htm I work a set of 5 lens polishers for 8 hours a day. that involves lifting 1lb fining tools onto and off of the machines once every 6 minutes, and I have to move from station to station as quickly as possible. so lets assume that I', doing the equivalent of 4mph walking for 8 hours, totally 16 miles for the day.
at 155lbs, i've burned 1409 calories. I don't do anything before or after work, i'm on the computer most of the time. so lets say I only burn 100 calories outside of work.
for a 2,000 calorie a day diet, i'm looking to burn roughly 500 calories at the gym to get rid of the extra so it doesn't go to fat stores (i am actively getting fatter :( )
an example of how I could do that, if I ran 4 miles a day, i'd cut off the extra calories. If I ran 5 miles, I'd start losing fat.
If I did hardcore spinning for 45 minutes a day, i'd burn around 720 calories, wich would get me to where i'd be losing fat, considering my work excersize and my 2000 calorie intake.
