Hey /fit/, my friend's about to head off to basic training and I can't help but feel a bit jealous about the amount of training and stuff he'll be going through. Are there any books/exercise routines/suggestions so that when he comes back, I can at least say I tried doing something similar?

put 20 kg in your rucksack and go walking 20 miles a day.

Pick out a marathon you want to run and start training for it. Or if you're into lifting try checking out Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe.

Do Crossfit religiously. If the Army hasn't switched over to something similar to them yet, then you'll probably be in better shape then him.

OP, I hope you aren't American.
If you are, your buddy is gonna be Iraqi mortar fodder as soon as he gets out.

crossfit sounds cool. Maybe this summer I'll switch from my program over to it, but I don't have a good gym setup

OP here, yes, I'm American, which makes me worried what he'll end up doing after basic training, but it's his life and the least I can do is support his decision. I'll look into the "Starting Strength" book in a little bit, I check amazon for reviews on it, damn rare to see a 5 star average review from anything on that site, so huge thanks on that suggestion, along with the Crossfit stuff, had no idea what that was earlier, either.

I checked out the Seals link, would it be workable to replace the swimming part with running? Don't exactly have a pool near me.

Thanks again everyone! Please keep it coming!

Who the hell thought of that? It's just a bunch of high rep calisthenics thrown together in a retarded fashion.

Is there a better copy than that terribly ugly scan of Starting Strength avail?
