oh ok.

well what im getting at is that I find it easier to take about 90 minutes when I work out to just do a ton of muscle groups in the same workout session. should I give 2 days of rest between workouts?

No leg muscles were worked? You know what this means you should do tomorrow?

Woops, in my eagerness to post SQUATZ I must've missed it. In that case, listen to the other guys and rest.

OP here, I find squats a real pain in the ass. I can do ~3x8 450lbs leg press, but squatting anything over 200 turns to shit real fast. What advantage does squat have over leg press?

PS: After doing the leg presses I could barely make it up the stairs. My legs were shaking just from standing still. Feels good, man.

Basically I want legs and ass so buff they are virtually bursting out of my pants. I want normal/relaxed pants to feel like tight pants.

The main difference is that you're using your obliques and back muscles as stabilizers when squatting, whereas when doing machine workouts, it is the machine that stabilizes the weight for you.

why are free-weight exercises better? because they mimic motions you will do in real, day to day life. How often in life will you use your legs to push a (stabilized) weight while having your back pressed against a chair?

The fact that you can leg press twice as much as you squat shows that your back muscles aren't as strong as they should be; you haven't gained completely functional strength with the leg press machine....

is this an accurate summary /fit/? I'm too lazy to re-read the intro to rippetoe...

how would you achive an opposite effect of this? Such as toning to get rid of the the excess fat on your quad.
