Last Wednesday I went to work but had a complete lack of energy. I drank a Rock Star, but it just didn't do anything for me. I started to get some dizzy spells, especially after getting up from sitting or squatting. Also, I could tell a fever was setting in - I was cold as hell even with my coat on indoors while everyone around me said it was hot. I got let home early and I took a nap and felt a little better. I even went out to dinner. But then that night, at about 1 PM, I woke up to my entire body aching, and if I swallowed, it felt like someone was stabbing my tonsils.

I called in sick that morning and went to the doctor. A test for mono came out positive. Since its viral, they said there's nothing they could really do. Take some OTC painkillers and just let your system deal with it.

So now I've been taking 800 mg of Ibuprofen about every 7 hours, but I have an empty stomach. All I've eaten since Wednesday night is half of a milk shake, some Jamba Juice, and a tiny slice of pizza. I'm hungry, but to swallow anything hurts like hell. Anything dairy makes my saliva really gummy.

TL;DR version: I have mono, I need preferably non-dairy ideas for foods to eat.

get some one to get you some RIPE avocados (fuerte are the creamiest) and some limes/lemons, salt and pepper...then cut the avocado in half, dispense with the seed, and start mashing the flesh to a paste, you can do this in the skin or in a ramakin or bowl, add the juice of a lime/lemon (your preference) and a few grinds of pepper and salt (again to your own taste) and then just eat it like baby food (should be nice going down and tastes amazing) or you can mash it into a baked potato instead of butter (same goes for humous)

avocados are preferable because they are so loaded with antioxidants and vitamins (you should only have one a day due to the high levels of monosaturated fats in them - these are the good fats that you should eat more of but one avocado a day is good)

if you dont like avocados then bananas?

That sounds pretty damn good, but the lime/lemon juice worries me. Wouldn't that be extremely acidic and burn the shit out of my throat?

i wouldnt have thought so but you could always use less or none...the citric acid works on the monounsaturates and begins breaking them down for you...i've had it with a sore throat before and it goes down a treat...

but like i said mate you can just experiment with what works for you.

all hail the mighty avocado

OP here.

I'm eating it right now and its amazing. A great soft texture that goes down smooth and painless. I might have to run back to the store to pick up more potatoes and avocados. Maybe this time I'll pick up a better avocado though. This one was rather firm and was a total bitch to mash up.

yeh its best when the avos are nice and soft, you can put them in a brown paper bag with a banana to soften - the banadine causes them to ripen much faster. (you can always use a blender if its too hard)

glad you like it mate!

get better soon!

Haha I remember having mono, but it didn't affect me that much, it just felt like a regular cold. My ex-girlfriend had it bad, though. Fucking slut.
