Cough Anonymous
Sup /fit/,

I never come here so I don't know if this is your field of expertise, but I have been having a problem for a few days now and it's getting REALLY annoying.

See, starting like 4 days ago, I get really bad coughs when I lie down in my bed. Now, my bedroom only consists of my bed, 2 closets and window including drapes. Oh, and also; carpeted floors. At first I thought I was just ill, but the same thing happened the next day.

The cough was so bad that I couldn't sleep, and in the morning I had yellow mucus stuck in my throat. So after experiencing it again, I decided to clean my room. I vacuum cleaned the floors, changed my bed sheets, washed the sheet over my mattress, cleaned up ALL dust EVERYWHEREEEEEEE and let my window open for the entire day.

The next night, I couldn't sleep. The cough only came when I was lying down on my bed. My girlfriend suggested it could be the drapes, so she washed them at 60 degrees yesterday and hung them back up. But we just went to bed (5 am) and she's still fast asleep (7:30 am) while I woke up coughing so hard that I had to puke :(

Now I know that I have hay fever (is it called that in English?) and a I believe I'm also allergic to dust mite. And I have been shedding skin (I believe as result of a sunburn) and if I'm not mistaken dust mite feed on skin remains, but then again, I don't know much of the subject so I dunno if these things are related at all. I am fine when I sleep on the couch, but my back hurts afterwards, and damn it, I have a wonderful bed, and I should be able to sleep in it without dying :(

I will be taking out my mattress when my girlfriends wakes up, and leave it in the open air for a few hours.

Any other suggestions/hints/solutions to my problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fill ur room with some chlorine gas or ozone.

That always fixes everything.

Just dont die... but it seriously works.

please dont fumigate your room.. will ruin everything.

Dust mites are on pretty much most surfices. try cleaning with warm soapy water you ceiling and walls if your sure they are the cause.

Hmm, haven't tried that yet. But I'm not sure IF they are the cause yet :( But will try to do so! My girlfriend just woke up, so after getting some groceries I'll get to it.

Can't get my mattrass in the open today because it's raining.

Thanks thusfar! But keep it coming please, I WANNA SLEEP :(

THE MITES, THEY ARE IN YOUR PILLOWS!!!1!!12

Seriously though, take your duvet and pillows to a dry cleaners, and air out your mattress when you get a chance. Any other fluffy or furry possession will no doubt also contain the little blighters

Will do. Hopefully it goes away with airing the mattrass, because dry cleaning the duvet and pillows will be quite costly for me :( Thanks alot for all the input guys!

Any more things to try out?

You can't be sure it's dust mites, it might be something else. Allergies shift every 7-8 years, for all you know it could be that you've just developed an allergy for some kind of summer tree pollen, so who knows? Go get some Allegra or Claritin at a drugstore.

Sounds like a sound plan to try out before trying the other stuff. Though, I ONLY have it when I lie down in my bed, don't have it anywhere else. And it seemed to have gotten there overnight, didn't feel it coming or anything :(

You opened your windows, so that could be another thing. Something else unique to your room would be the detergents used to clean stuff. I wouldn't discount being sick, either. I just read the part where you said something about going to bed at 5 in the morning. Your body really needs to sleep to help with immune functions.
