Hey /fit/, I've got a really high metabolism, I've tried gaining weight through food and it just wouldn't work. So about 1-2 months ago I started lifting free weights. I usually do a pretty intense upper body/ core workout 2-4 times a week. I also use protein powder and occasionally take calcium and magnesium supplements. Over the past month or two I've gained 5lbs and I've noticed some definition in my arms and chest, (I used to be skin and bone) but I don't know if my metabolism is affecting my muscle growth. Does it? Pic related it's me as of now. Before I had no pecs at all and arms that were tiny.
Tl;Dr: Is my metabolism affecting my muscle growth?

You rucky bastard. Yes the metabolism is affecting it in a bad way if you dont eat enough. But having a high metabolism is indeed benificial for building muscle and without getting fat. Just eat eat eat eat eat, try to stay away from sugar, except for post workout. But basicly just eat a lot, eat lots of fats, protein, complex carbs. Work hard in the gym and get good a night sleep. Might want to aim for 5000+ calories per day or even more if your metabolism is really high.

I can't afford that much, and my metabolism is really really high. I ate 12 McDonalds burgers in one sitting and didn't gain a pound from it.

eating mac donalds is like eating plastic. There is nothing there. Eat some real food. And eating like that 'once' is not enough. Eat 5000+ every day.

don't eat faggot, took me like ten damn years to work that out.

do not eat.
your body is amazingly efficient, do not put it under stress by asking it to process more than it needs to, just eat all the sugary bullshit you can during the day (easy to digest) and make sure to chow down on some raw nuts or something when you are hungry in the morning and night. try to separate your meals as far as possible to allow your digestive track to get rest.
as for workouts;
Work out to pump until you can see veins in the area when you first wake up (maybe like a week or more), then start doing strength exercises (high intensity, low rep)

if you have trouble sticking to that sort of diet, caffeine helps, in fact fuck you, just drink caffeine, fuck fitness
