/fit/ I go to the gym with friends to stay motivated but I have one friend in particular who goes for these crazy 2-4 hour sessions. I can usually be done in about an hour or so (this isn't including cardio. just lifting). Which one of us is doing it wrong?

He is. Spending more than 90 minutes in a gym is counterproductive.

Your muscles are like "Well we're done working time to fuel up!" and if you keep making them work they say "Well, lets fucking break down and eat each other!"

i'm going for a little bigger/more toned. i'm a small guy. 5'7" 128 lbs. I want more muscle mass, but i want to keep it defined.
He's 6'3" 180 lb and is trying for the same thing. i do more weight with less reps (3 sets of 8-10 reps) while he does more reps with less weight (5 sets of 20-25 reps).

I lifted the way you do (and still do) and cut body fat percentage by 12% and increased muscle mass by about 25lbs over a 2 year period
