After I quit, the ability to smell and taste food again was awesome.
And I haven't gotten sick ever since I quit. I enjoy doing PT and I get to spend more time with my wife and kid (meaning I don't die early).
But quitting isn't easy. You have to create a new environment for yourself that allows you to quit. That might mean changing up your routines. For instance, if your drive to work takes half an hour and you are used to smoking 2 cigarettes at certain landmarks, change your route to avoid those landmarks. Also, you will have to pretty much avoid friends and coworkers that smoke. Hang out with the non-smokers instead. If your girlfriend smokes too, have her quit the same time.
