OK, so I want to lose body fat and tone up. Been doing Bikram Yoga the past few days- love it.
but the yoga instructors, who I guess do it every day, dont *really* look that in shape. Yea hte guy was thin, but the girl had some pudge on her...even though I was sweating like a mofo for 90 minutes.

The point is, should yoga compliment weight training for maximum fitness?

Trying to get fit without doing yoga is like going duck hunting without bringing your accordion along.

I gotta admit, this is very true.

Please be so kind as to inform us what "real" yoga is...since you are an expert.

It's going in a 100 degree room for 90 minutes, going through a routine of stretches that leaves each muscle group screaming, feeling every muscle shake from exertion, and someone leaving the rooom covered in sweat and NOT feeling like a train just hit your body.

It's called Bikram Yoga.

How does the fitness acquired there transfer over to other modalities?

Because strength is nothing without the flexibility to use it right?

You got to remember that "flexibility" isn't just "reaching for your fucking toes"

It's the ability to move your core, your limbs, all your muscles, in controlled, coordinated motion.

Yoga really makes my body feel "tight" (tight in terms of everything moving together, everything perfectly in place and under control) and light at the same time. It's amazing after doing it for a few months (the Bikram style at least).

being healthy dosent exactly mean being thin, you have to focus on improving youy body rather then focus on losing weight

a trim body is a symptom of health, not a cause

Sure, all right, but what I meant is, how does the "fitness" you get doing Bikram Yoga carry over to other modes of work. For example, could you hold your own in a gravel-shoveling contest? Or a footrace? Or suppose you had to build a sandbag wall...

Yoga joint/tendon development. It will make you healthier, you will not use a lot of calories thought, because it's mostly slow paced movements.

what a pile of bulshit, yoga simply can be replaced by fcken stretching

Wouldn't the tons of sweating pouring out of my body indicate my body is really hot, indicating there's a lot of cellular activity, indicating a lot of caloric exertion?

The question still stands....could you yogafags win a footrace or lift a heavy object?

No it means your body is really hot and so you pour out the water inside your body to cool you off. Being cold and trying to get warm actually uses more calories than being hot and trying to cool off. You're just becoming dehydrated. Doing yoga in a sauna and just being in a sauna offers the same weight loss results. It's just water weight.

But sweating is good for you, don't get me wrong. It helps cleanse your body. I dated a girl whos mothers organs were screwed up and she either didn't urinate or her kidneys didn't do the job well enough or something. Anyway they had a sauna in their house which she had to sit in for like an hour twice a day.

I use yoga as a replacement for stretching. I get bored just stretching, so I rush through it to get to my workout. But when a hot lady in spandex tells me in a soothing voice to put my legs over my head, I do it.

Yoga is a good compliment, but you still need to do cardio and lifting.

When I see a yogafag demonstrating superior work capacity, maybe I'll rethink this. But for now I maintain that yoga is a waste of time.

...so you waste time of your life to do much of unneccesary shit to listen to hot lady? wtf get a life...
