Hey, /fit/. I'm a male anon, used to weigh about 200 lb, but I went on a diet, ate healthy shit, etc... And now I'm about 175 lb. Cool, yeah.

But now I'm being advised to not lose much more weight, otherwise I'll lose some of my herculean strength. >_> Wants me to work out instead of diet, her reasoning being that it will "firm up."

...

This sounds so bullshit, though. I've got a bit of flab, still, so... this is your question, /fit/. Fat magically turns into muscle? y/n

Work out, chow healthy, and your fat turns into muscle, yes.

Fat doesn't turn into muscle. Never has, never will. I'm pretty sure you didn't mean that it literally turns to muscle, but even saying it like you did comes off sounding dumb.

Hammer's advice is still right. Eat well, lift weights, and you will lose that fat and gain muscle at the same time.

Fat does not ever "turn into muscle". They are two different types of tissue. It is, however, possible to burn fat and gain muscle, which will have approximately the same result.

I was trying to keep it simple. Ok. As you work out, some of your lipids will undergo the catabolic process turning into simple sugars, which undergo cellular respiration and the Krebs cycle. If muscle microtears are present, the energy released will link free amino acids together to form appropriate protein chains to rebuild muscle and bulk it up.

There, happy?

Not hating on you man, I figured you actually knew how it worked. Just be careful with your wording though, or else you're bound to give some of the lesser-informed people some very wrong ideas.

Meh. If they don't know their biology, the end-result is about the same.

NO. NEEDS MORE MECHANISMS.

Sorry, flashing back to grading biochem papers.

Fair.

It just pisses me off when people say that fat turns into muscle. Call it a pet peeve of mine, I guess.

Thanks, /fit/. I didn't think muscle/fat didn't work that way. >_>;
