Sup /fit/? I'm a 330 lbs, 6'2", 20-year-old male

I'm trying to lose weight, but it's difficult to set goals when you have no scales that go up high enough to accurately weigh you.

I consume 2000~2500 calories a day, and I exercise daily, usually:

20 vertical crunches
20 bicycle crunches
30 jumping jacks
and a 30-minute walk

With this diet and exercise, do you think I will lose weight? Granted, I know other factors can influence the outcome, but still. If there's anything I can do to improve my results, please say so.

dont walk. run. run til you cant then run some more. you will lose more weight if you actually get your heart rate up for at least 20 minutes a day. walking barely does anything compared to a 15 minute run.

I don't think I can run for 15 minutes straight. Besides, I was told not to start with running, but rather to work my way up to it.
>> Anonymous
run until you cant. which will probably be closer to 5 minutes than ten at first. the next day try to run for 6, then for 7 and so on. walk beforehand for 5 to 10 minutes to loosen up. afterwards walk for at least 15 to 20 minutes so that your muscles can relax and you dont cramp up. I was about 200 pounds at the same height as you and lost about 25 pounds doing only this and eating a little less than normal. If you consume anything with high fructose corn syrup regularly, stop immediately.

I try to avoid anything with HFCS and I even try to avoid stuff with high fat content.

I'll work on the running, though I honestly doubt I can even keep up the pace for 5 minutes.

when i first started doing this, I had just quit smoking. I damn near threw up after ten minutes. You dont have to run at top speed or anything, in fact, I recommend not doing so. just jog. jog so that you can feel your heart rate quickening to the point that it becomes something that actually feels stressful. it might suck (which it did for me) but its effective. in about 3 months i lost about 20 pounds doings this 5 to 6 days a week. I am now 164 pounds about a year later and i dont even really run anymore. Once you excercise like this regularly for a few months it will hopefully kick your metabolism into a higher gear than it was at.

It took about a month to be able to run for 15 minutes straight for me. and after about 2 months i could do it without feeling totally exhausted afterwards. I personally did this at night since i live in AZ and its hot as fuck in the day time, but doing it in the morning before eating is a better idea.

but it really is all about getting your heart rate up for 20 minutes a day. like really up. but I totally recommend not being afraid of running for 5 minutes. it will feel like forever while you are doing it, but it isnt like it is going to give you a heart attack. And if you really want to be more gradual, just run for 5 minutes for the first week, then do 6 minutes the second week. then 7 and so on. I avoided this simply because I am impatient, but you do weight about 130 more pounds than i did when i started so i can see why you would be concerned. But just walking will do exactly dick and weight training doesnt really get you to lose a lot of body fat in an all around way.

If you're that heavy, I highly discourage running. Instead, try cycling, rowing, or the elliptical if you have access to a gym. Running with that much weight on you will put high amounts of stress on your knees.
>> Anonymous
>>93537
agreed. dont run with that much weight on ya, disastorous for the bones.
>> Anonymous
ah, didnt think about the knees. then yes id encourage cycling or swimming over running until you drop more weight.

>I consume 2000~2500 calories a day, and I exercise daily, usually

There's your problem, faggot.

And try fucking running.
>> Anonymous
How the fuck did you even GET that big? The mind boggles. I didn't do a damn bit of exercise my whole life and ate shit until about 3 months ago, where at 21 I'd hit a "whopping" 230lbs.

I sweated doing the slightest of movements and just one flight of stairs would have me out of breath. From there I could see something had to change. I'm amazed people can let themselves go as crazily as 300+lbs

I've been advised, with my age and height, not to go below 2000 calories. So hahahaha all you want. I'd like to lose weight, not starve myself and become unhealthy.

>>93537
I'd like to get a bike, and maybe I will if I ever get enough cash. Machines are out of the question for me though.

>>93555
I started getting big when a psychiatrist prescribed a medication for me when I was around 9. Shit had a side effect of increased appetite, and it turned out I didn't even need it. I do admit, though, that I didn't even seem to care I was fat until a few years ago. Don't fucking know why.

according to http://health.discovery.com/tools/calculators/basal/basal.html
His body will be using about 2920.5 TO JUST BE THERE dumbfuck, if he goes lower than 2000 his body will start to lower it's energy needs.

Waking will be fine to start with, intersperse it with some power walking too.

Yes you will lose weight.

He weighs 330 lbs for christs sake people. That's a low calorie amount for him. Stop being such assholes.

2000 could even be low for that size. eat every few hours.

walk for an hour each day, in the morning before breakfast (controversial around here).

buy some adjustable dumbbells at a used sports store, do squats/deads/shoulderpress/benchpress/etc, more muscle will up your metabolism. do it every other day, and consider some more intensive cardio in between.

I was about 330 a couple months ago and have since lost 35 pounds, and am not stopping. I believe you are on the right track. Hell, when you're as fat as we are a brisk walk will get your heart rate going just fine.

In my research I've found that you should just not bother with counting out every calorie. Just learn to recognize when you're really hungry--not when you want food, but when you actually need it--and then eat a moderate amount of something healthy. You could eat 2500 calories worth of chocolate cake every day and get nowhere, but if you just make sure you're sticking to fruits, vegetables, lean meats, etc., and not overeating just because you're used to it, then you'll get the job done.

2000-2500 is what I was eating at 230lbs, BEFORE I started trying to lose weight. I went down to 1300-1500. He should be able to make 2000

>>93646

Then you were starving yourself, and probably lost mostly lean muscle mass. Men should never drop below 1800 calories a day, for risk of dropping their metabolism

caloric intake depends on your weight not gender
>> Anonymous
>>93670

It's based on weight, but gender also has an effect.

I'm quoting from Tom Venuto's book "Burn the Fat Feed the Muscle" here:

"In their position stand on healthy and unhealthy weight loss programs the ACSM recommends 1200 calories as the minimal daily calorie level for women and 1800 as the minimum for men."

I'm sorry dude, but if you were eating 1500 calories a day at the most you lost a lot of muscle.

Ugh... it's called going to the gym and eating right. Don't make me have to take a picture, I really can't be bothered. Just accept you're wrong, it's easier for both of us.
