Dear /fit/,

Right now I'm 5'10" and 206 lbs. I've started a workout routine of 3x12/10/8 where I increase the weights as the reps go down so I fatigue at the end of every set.

1. Is 3 reps enough?
2. If I stick to all my workouts and progressively increase the weight, when can I expect to see my first gains?

1. Yes, but the total reps should add to 15-20 at least. The 5x5 scheme adds to 25, for example. The muscle must be encouraged to adapt.

2. Maybe a few months for a small but pleasing increase in shapeliness, and a couple years for a movie star physique without drugs.

Oh, and go easy on the fatigue. Training to failure can exhaust the CNS quickly. I'd fail on the last set, if you absolutely feel the need to fail.

/fit/ is not your personal trainer.

I stick to 3 sets of 8. The last set I usually fail around 6 though. Your routine looks good. just don't ruin your form when you start to fatigue (cheat rep)
