The grammar in that video is atrocious. Typos, punctuation errors, and poor diction abound.

It's insulting. If the creators didn't take the time to write properly, I don't see why I should take the time to watch their video.

This isn't the only concern for vegans/vegetarians. I have recently been considering not eating anything that is raised for food, simply because of the environmental impact. Large amounts of energy are poured into raising these animals and keeping them alive, so that we can take a small fraction of it once it's finally ready to be eaten. It's just wasteful.

I don't even care about the environment. I'm just thinking about more ways that I can become a douchebag

But just so you know, you don't have to be a furry to see the value in not eating meat

If anyone in this thread has ever gone out and shot something, gutted it, and then taken it home and eaten it, feel free to disregard this.

Shut up all of you. Militant vegans and vegetarians fucking suck, but so do you righteous meat eaters. Vegetarians and vegans can't handle the killing of animals for whatever reason, but they at least back up their words with actions. If you call eating meat walking down to the supermarket and picking up a piece of steak, grilling it up rare, and eating it while thinking how hard core you are, think again. You're only doing it because you can't handle the thought of eating something that once resembled an animal. The only ones who have a right to brag about eating meat (and these people are too usually too classy to do so) are the people who drag themselves out to the foothills of nowhere, squat next to a pile of bear shit all day just for the chance to take a shot at a deer or boar or whatever, then bring it home and sink your hands into its viscera while its blood splatters all over their boots. They know meat is an ugly business and engage in it anyway.

I have never met more hypocritical fuckwads than the average person who eats meat. You are the ones who would give meat up in a second if you had to do anything it takes to get it on your table yourself. So stop patting yourselves on the back and congratulating yourself for hunting a wild package of ground beef. Fuck you all. You make me sick.

I've killed and eaten animals before, but I don't anymore, because buying my own land to hunt on or buying a hunting club membership would be too fucking expensive and it's honestly not worth it when I can just go to the store and buy meat. Saying that every "righteous meat-eater" who hasn't killed and cleaned their own meat is a hypocrite is fucking stupid. Just because these people DON'T kill their own meat doesn't mean they couldn't do it, with relative ease. They have the capacity, even if they don't have a way to exercise is.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, almost all people were killing their own meat for food. Ancestral humans survived that way. So obviously, it's not that difficult or disturbing to kill an animal and eat it. The average person could do it with ease. Thus, there is nothing hypocritical about them acting like "righteous meat eaters" because if they needed to they could easily adjust to killing their own meat and still be righteous meat eaters.
>> Anonymous
>>124138

>even if they don't have a way to exercise is.

My bad, that should say "exercise it".
>> Anonymous
>>123639

You know, conflicted hate rant that that was, I think I'd agree with you in part. I don't agree with you that people need to hunt in place of buying, per se, as there's little difference in my mind between punching a hole in an animals neck or a firing a bullet through its head. No one is more natural than the other to me. But I do agree that people definitely need first hand experience of animal slaughter at some point in their lives (i.e; not just some crappy documentary) to understand what it is they eat. Maybe even to kill an animal themselves, in a humane way of course.

Recently I was walking down the meat isle of my supermarket, and I concede there is something surreal about seeing cuts of animal, raw and pink, neatly lined up on shelves in their plastic packaging. Animals that were bred for the sole purpose of ending up in that place. But that's more of an issue with the manner in which it's sold more than cruelty to the animal itself. I have experienced slaughter first hand. In a way I was more comfortable with that than seeing the parts mashed into nondescript shapes for human consumption.

Does anyone else get to feel this way?
>> Anonymous
>>123554

Dude...have you heard the word "tractor" or "pesticide" before? How about the ridiculous amounts of water used to irrigate the vegetables that you eat? You can say that feeding animals consumes a lot of energy, but plants require just as much -- and the stuff it uses harms "mother earth" more than cow flatulence.

>>123639
And you...I've got one word for you. Progress. I'm sure some people would like to spend their days subsistence hunting, but unless you live in the 3rd world, you're going to have bills to pay that the rabbit you just caught isn't going to pay for. I wonder how many vegetarians buy only veggies that they grew themselves? You don't deserve to eat meat until you've gone through the tribulations of a blight or planted those seeds by hand, you pretentious prick.
>> Anonymous
>You don't deserve to eat meat

Fuck, meant "veggies"
>> Anonymous
>>124167
No, because it really doesn't matter. I'm not trying to be a troll here, but seriously, it's totally irrelevant. You need the nutrients in meat; as long as you get them, it really doesn't matter at all HOW you got them.
>> Anonymous
>>124185
>How about the ridiculous amounts of water used to irrigate the vegetables that you eat?
uh, instead that water is used to grow soy and grains that are then fed to cattle.

you should really look this stuff up before you go on rant without having a clue.
seriously, just look it up and tell me if your entire post isn't retarded
>> Anonymous
>>124194

So the guy who just cited energy consumption as a reason to quit eating meat was correct? Double standards...
>> Anonymous
>>124195
uh wut
I think what that guy was saying (correctly) is that it takes far more energy for people to consume meat. You don't get nearly enough meat to compensate for the amount of calories that go into raising livestock, because most of those calories go into allowing the livestock to simply exist (i.e. those calories are wasted).
>> Anonymous
>>124207

Again, I'm saying that veggies are their own sin as well. You think the pesticides we use to grow our veggies is good for the earth? How about the fleet of specialized tractors required to harvest all of our veggies?

If you don't want to eat something because it's wasteful, I hope you like the taste of dirt, because that's about all you're left with.
>> Anonymous
sage because /fit/ is too retarded for this topic
>> Anonymous
>>124218
what do pesticides have to do with energy?
look, like I said, you ought to really look this stuff up, because you clearly don't have a clue.
The amount of grain and soy feed the world's livestock could easily feed hungry people. And not only that but the amount of farmland devoted to livestock (in one way or another) is absurd. It is actually mathematically impossible for everyone on earth to have meat eating habits like we do. There isn't enough space on the planet for all of that land being dedicated to relatively little energy.

Animal protein production requires more than eight times as much fossil-fuel energy than production of plant protein while yielding animal protein

Really, why pontificate when you have no clue?
it's really kind of annoying to have to respond to totally false shit
>> Anonymous
Some info there might be right, but the part where this states that you get diabetes, heart diceases is pure bullshit and "humans are not meant to eat meat" humans EVOLVED because they started eating meat, we would still probably hang from trees if not for meat. Its natural for humans to eat meat, but yeah, humans could go without it today and world would probably be better place.
>> Anonymous
>>124240

So your argument is pretty much a case of "the lesser of two evils," hmm?

I hope you don't drive a car, own a house, let your children go to school (lots of energy consumption there), or purchase ANY superfluous items that you don't need to survive, or else you might come across as a hypocrite.
>> Anonymous
>>124296

Correction, you already are a hypocrite since you own or even use a computer.
>> Anonymous
>>124296
So, let me get this straight... if I do one thing wrong, I have to do everything wrong, or else I'm a hypocrite? I don't see how that could possibly be.
Is it really not ok for me to lessen my impact in the ways that I choose? Why must it be everything or nothing?
>> Anonymous
>>124296
I don't see what's wrong with someone at least trying to trim down in one area. How does that make them a hypocrite? Are people that drive eco-friendly cars hypocrites because they don't live on a farm? There's nothing wrong with making a personal choice. If that guy was saying "YOU EARTH RAPIST!!" because you ate meat, he'd be a hypocrite. But he hasn't been saying anything like that the entire time.
>> Anonymous
>>124327
>>124329

No, he's saying that it is wrong to eat meat because there is a more energy efficient alternative.

So...

Why wouldn't he be a hypocrite if he didn't make similar replacements throughout his life? If he's NOT one, then what if I eat meat but turn off the AC during the summer? Would that satiate the "meat wastes energy" camp? Absolutely not, they won't stop until I stop, so they're hypocrites until they do EVERY LAST THING they can to conserve energy.
>> Anonymous
>>124327
moreover, in order for me to be a hypocrit, wouldn't I have to be telling you to do these things?
I never once suggested that you stop eating meat. I was merely correcting the extremely false "points" you were making about the relative impact of meat consomption

The only thing I suggested you do is look things up before you spout wrong shit - which I still think you should do
>> Anonymous
>>124337
He said it was wasteful. Like saying, "Leaving the water faucet running is wasteful." Why are you taking a simple statement as a personal attack?

>>124337
If you would kindly point me to where I said it was wrong to eat meat, I would be much obliged

>>124348

Also, I wasn't specifically addressing him, so much as I was addressing those who don't eat meat (and tell others not to) based on the fact that it is wasteful.

What we need is genetically engineereed meat masses made from the cells of each animal. This way we eat our meat and animals live happily ever after.
>> Anonymous
>>124348
You were attemping, it seemed, to make them equivalent.
in fact, this is what you said:
>You can say that feeding animals consumes a lot of energy, but plants require just as much
this is patently false. I was correcting you
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
Anyone who thinks vegetarianism is a good idea is a faggot.
>> Anonymous
Ahh, back from a quick cardio session...

>>124355

It is only false from a very limited perspective. The grand scheme is not so easily to quantify, nor is the future of the industry. For example, did you know that some cow farms are powered by their cows' emissions? How about how much animal stock is fed using the byproducts of industrial farming (corn husks, for example)?

And there's the ever present damage caused by pesticides. What will be the impact on the environment from the increased use of pesticides if we all become completely dependent on plants?

I'm sorry, in the grand scheme you are comparing rocks to stones.
>> Anonymous
Its good to see people here with enough sense.

You NEED to eat meat, especially if you're trying to get in shape and build muscle.

http://www.abcbodybuilding.com/proteinanalysis6.php

From the article (in case you're too lazy to click)

---===---
Generally animal based products contain the highest array of essential amino acids, while vegetable based products typically lack one or more EAAs (table – 5)(Mcardle, Katch, & Katch, 1999). In this context Campbell et al. (1999) investigated the effects of a lactovegan (meat free) diet compared to a omnivorous diet on body composition and muscular strength in male adults aged 51–69 years of age. The participants in the lactovegan diet were assisted by dieticians to ensure that they obtained adequate protein intake. Further there was no significant difference between mean energy and macronutrient intakes between groups. Both conditions participated in a 12 week resistance training program. Results found a significant increase in fat free mass, and a decrease in fat mass in the omnivourous condition. However, there was a decrease in fat free mass in the vegetarian condition, and an increase in fat mass. These results indicate that a diet with the majority of its protein from meat products is more effective for supporting the goals of a resistance training program then a vegetarian diet.
---===---

Read that last sentence again VERY CAREFULLY. It proves conclusively, through scientific evidence, that you CANNOT reach the same goals through vegetarianism as you can through eating meat.
