Sup /fit/

Say I want more cardio exercise, but I really don't want to jog in the mornings/at night outside because of how cold it is.

All this aside, would a treadmill be a good investment?

I have the money, tell me what you all think of them. It's either this or a gym membership, which is about £25 a month at the one I'm looking at, but for now I'm just looking for the cardio

Thanks

Elliptical machine if you want your knees to last you into retirement.

Gym is better if you can actually make yourself go regularly. Otherwise, nothing. If you can't make yourself hit the gym, you ain't gonna hit the treadmill either. =(

I'll definately get my moneys worth out of the gym, but since I'm only looking for the one thing I think it would be best to stick to that, and having the treadmill nearby is even more incentive to use it rather than having to go to the gym.

Elliptical machines do seem good, but it doesn't look like they offer as much of a workout as a treadmill possibly could, not to mention they're a fair bit more expensive by the looks of things

You get out of it what you put in to it. You can get just as good a workout on the elliptical as you can on the treadmill, if you're not lazy about it.

And yeah, an elliptical costs more than a treadmill. You know what costs even more? Knee reconstruction surgery.

Are you trying to tell me something?
Because I think you are.

No but seriously, will it end up being that bad if I used it frequently?

Running on a treadmill or tarmac will be fine as long as you use the correct footwear (a pair of running shoes fitted by a professional to correct any pronation issues you may have) or are rather heavy.

Unless you are rather heavy, rather.

Sounds good, I'll go with the treadmill then.
Thanks /fit/.
