Hi /fit/, I have several problems. I'm 6'1" and 147lbs. I want to start working out so I stop having disgusting jelly rolls whenever I sit down, and so I'm not embarrassed at taking off my shirt whenever I go swimming.

The problem is: I have no fucking clue where to start or what to do. I was a fat little kid in middleschool up until about my junior year in highschool, at which point I started losing a lot of weight. However, all this weight was lost because I stopped a ton of food and drinking several huge buckets of soda everyday, I didn't exercise at all.

So basically I want to lose body fat and get a toned lean look, but have no idea how to do it since I've never really exercised ever.

Picture Related: It's how I want to look ;__;

Ugh, why does everyone post that pic? Brad Pitt looks like a twig. Anyway, if you want to put some muscle on, read this-

I probably post this too much, but it's a good place to start for beginners.

Good news bad news time. Good news, you're not really that fat. At 6'1 147 ain't that much. Porty maybe, but whatever, its your definition to work out. Now the bad news. Its gonna be a looooong damn time before you look like that. And its gonna hurt, alot. If it doesn't you did it wrong and need to do it again. This is coming from a guy who used to be 145 at 6'2, but keep the fuck at it, lift great big heavy weights and you'll do just fine. /internet pep talk

Wait...I'm 145lbs at 5'10" and I'm skinny as hell, there's no way this guy's 147lbs 6'1" and has to worry about being fat or
"porty".

muscle weighs more than fat

uhh, you could get to where he is in that picture without ever lifting a single weight. fuck there are millions of skinny fucks with that body out there who don't do anything physical.

he's 1 sandwich away from looking like he was in a concentration camp, he is hardly defined and he has small muscles.

all the fucking people on /fit/ saying "oh i don't wanna get big muscles" makes me think 4chan is fucking infested with emo faggots who don't want to outgrow their little sisters jeans.

I think (hope) what they mean is, "I want to put on some muscle, but not look like some kind of muscle-bound freak or a bodybuilder."

He looks badass, I don't care what you say.

He looks "badass" because of PERSONALITY, not that shriveling thing of a body.

HA! He's in no danger of that. Pro bodybuilders have more dedication and willpower than you think. They live for the pump, they go under huge physical and mental stress to get where they are. They spend thousands and thousands of dollars for HGH and steroids each season, risking their very lives for that extra pound of muscle. On top of that, they use "tricks" at showtime like flattering lighting, oils, using diuretics, cutting out sugar until just before the show, then downing some to look more vascular. They do NOT look like that in the offseason, and to think you could "accidently" end up with too much muscle because... oops, I worked out too much, it's ridiculous.

Go to a NATURAL bodybuilding show, and spot the difference. And they look a thousand times better than the idiots who are afraid to lift a weight and dick around at the gym to achieve nothing.

He's lean, pretty well toned, and he looks like he's been through his fair share of toughening shit (mostly due to makeup). He doesn't look like he lifts weights, but he's still not a guy you'd fuck with. That body is what a lot of amateurs aim for because it wouldn't be tough to maintain and it's fucking attractive. He looks badass because of makeup and hair, but his body type is pretty neat too.

wait, you mean if i do a set of squats i won't gain 50 lbs of muscle overnight? :O

So what did Brad Pitt do to prepare for Fight Club? What do you think Brad Pitt did to get his body to look like that?

Big =/= attractive

If by "badass" you mean skinny faggot then yes
That's exactly what I looked like BEFORE I started lifting weights
I can't believe people see that as a physique goal

Most of this board wants to get in shape to attract women, like it or not that kind of body is what the majority of western women like. That's all there is to it, nobody cares if you think he's a faggot, he's had far more and far hotter women than you could ever dream of, and although just having his body wont get you that it's a start.

Because we are not as insecure as you, who believes vastly increased muscle mass to be the cure for you being bullied in school and having a small cock.

I'm sure telling yourself you're so secure that you don't have to look good really helps you get over that hideous vision you get everytime you look at the mirror, or when the big guys (the ones you would call "douchebags") push you around
Well I lift for myself, I like being big, I like being stronger, it raises my self-esteem and confidence and girls dig that.
Enjoy your limp, womanly body

> LOL WELL UR UGLY AND I COULD BEAT U UP!!!
Fix'd, not everyone needs to be the size of a house to be confident. Way to prove his point.
>> Anonymous
People who strive to such phyisiques are always obese and thus they look up to that physique as a physique of someone who doesn't feel insecure in his body.

The thing is, everyone who looks like this has never done anything bigger than 10 pushups or situps per month. It is just the default physique they have without any effort and thus it is not really a thing to strive for.

If you're fat, you're going to have to work hard to get rid of all the fat you have, but since you worked hard to that point, why not continue to work like you did after that point and achieve a phyisique really worth achieving?

well whatever
if you guys aspire to look like fucking Bill Kaulitz because anyone who clearly puts some effort into exercising is "insecure" then it's your problem
The progression thread already shows this board is full of failures anyway

If this is true, well, what does that make you?

Jesus Christ there's more to life then getting BIG N' TUFF LOL, this board is about getting healthy and fit because the majority of 4channers are fat bastards and skinny bitches. You however have fallen pray to the "Anyone skinnier than me is a skinny bitch and anyone fatter than me is a fat bastard." mindset. The general consensus is that Brad Pit has a pretty good body, which is all most people here really want. People just want to emulate him because he's a strong confident character WITHOUT needing to be the size of a house. Bodybuilding to excessis just choice which is something you're welcome to express, but don't cry like a bitch when everyone else isn't like "WOW NICE ONE BRAH WISH I WAS AS BUFF AS YOU." and if you WERE looking for a musclehead circlejerk then why the fuck are you on 4chan?

>He looks good and is healthy. This board is Health & Fitness, not bodybuilding.

Fucking signed.
Most of this board is clearly at a very basic level of fitness.
Maybe once they reach the level of the OP's pic they'll want to do more, but it's at least a very ATTAINABLE goal, and much more realistic for fatfags than something more muscular.
