Well, /fit/, this one fits more under Health instead of Fitness.

3 years ago, I was an extremely heavy drug user. I didn't IV, but I snorted everything under the sun. I shared straws with tons of people I barely knew. One of them, I learned later, had Hepatitis B (which I am vaccinated for, thankfully) and another was a male prostitute.

Anyway, I went clean since then, but I don't know if I should bother getting tested for Hepatitis C. A test would be costly, embarrassing (my parents would find out since I'm 24 and on their plan), and quite a hassle.

Should I do this? Am I really at risk? And how much would my life change if I'm positive for Hep C?

If you get tested and you are positive, it can be treated. It would probably be cheaper than waiting and then having to pay for treatment for your liver cancer.

Go to a free clinic if you are worried about embarrassment.

Always be on the safe side and get tested, IMO. Better to find out and get treated, than be surprised and have everyone find out later
