Hey /fit/, just sort of checking in...

I started early this summer at about 198 pounds, 5 feet 6-7 inches tall when I got membership to 24 Hour Fitness. I started off pretty seriously, running pretty long runs and doing pretty well for someone out of shape, but still doing about 11 minute miles. Shitty, I know, but please follow along anyway.

Anyway, I was lifting weights on machines and doing well-rounded exercises, but after a while I've been slipping. I'm still running fairly regularly, but since I did throwing in high school I don't worry much about my arms and I'm focusing significantly more on my core and legs. My mile times have since gone to just under 9 minutes and I'm about 185 pounds.

Diet-wise, I've reduced my soda consumption by going cold-turkey for about a month, then treating myself occasionally to it, and watching what I eat, keeping conscious of what I'm having. This usually gets me to order decent foods, but again I occasionally indulge in fast food (between once and twice a month).

Is there anything that I should be particularly worried about as I go forward? I'm not planning on changing anything, so no need to worry about me slipping even further, but if you guys have any advice or suggestions as I go on, I'd be grateful for the tips.

Don't let any part of your body get ingored. You'll kick yourself later when you notice how small your arms are in relation to the rest of your body.

Diet wise, try to cut out all the soda and fast food...every meal you eat counts overall and I bet if you added up the calories/sugar/fat you've consumed with your little cheats, you'd be suprised.

Lastly...try switching up your cardio. Instead of just running at like 80% capacity for a long period of time, try interval training or sprinting. Something to switch it up so your body doesn't plateau off it's progress.

I'll try to make sure to focus on my arms. I've focused so little on my legs and even my core back in high school, so I suppose I'll just be maintaining my arms until my legs are in better shape.

I'm probably still going to drink soda, but obviously not on a regular basis. I'm trying to diet such that I'll feel comfortable sticking with it even when I'm not trying to lose weight, and I rather like soda in limited quantities.

In all honesty, your body will plateau no matter what you do. You just break through the plateau by doing more exercise. Last 10-15 pounds are always the hardest to lose because of plateaus. I rage so hard cause I went from like 230 to 170, my goal is around 150, but now I'm only losing like 1 pound a month with a totally clean diet and tons of exercise. The first 50 pounds I lost came off in like four months though.

I guess it might be different for some people. I do random mix ups of steady-state and HIIT and only do body weight exercises.
