Sup /fit/, femmefag here.

Some time ago, my roommate bought a weight machine and a set of dumbbells, and since then I've enjoyed lifting for general fitness. At the time I was a poor college student, but now I have money to burn.

I'm thinking about trying kettlebells. I've looked at kettlebell exercise programs, so my question isn't "whar i find wurkoutz", but rather what size of bell I should purchase. The current dumbbells that I use are only 20lbs, and the kettlebells around that mark are 8kg and 16kg.

Should I go higher weight, or lower weight?

Well if you allready have 20lbs weights, I'd go for the 16kg

strength -> 20lbs
size -> 16kg

With kettlebells it's best to move on to higher weights as you progress. Because the movements are often compound lifts it's best to use as heavy weight as possible to activate all the core and support muscles. Kettlebells also won't make you huge and pumped, if you're worried about that.

Oh, I'm not worried about getting HEUG at all.

I considered the 8kg set with sort of a "toe in the water" approach. Some of the movements, to me, are more dynamic, I guess, than regular dumbbells. I wasn't sure how I felt about doing cleanz and jerkz with a 32lb ball of iron, but at my level, the only logical choice is to move onward and upward.

Thanks /fit/! I'll be at full dyke on bike status in no time!

Yes, with kettlebells the lifts are supposed to be more dynamic. You're supposed to swing, throw, lift, catch, juggle with it. There's really no isolated exercises and lifts with traditional girya training. Your goal should be to get to swining the 70lbs Kettlebell as fast as possible for best results! Learn proper breathing and posture and technique first to avoid injury.

Try getting kettlebells that you fill up for weight. Easier to change the weight and more of a challenge to control.

id go for a 12kg 16kg and 24kg

i have 35# 55# and 70# and I rarely use the 70#, mostly because the only thing I can do with it is swing it. there are a lot of exercises you can do with kettlebells. i usually do: swings, cleans, clean+jerk, presses from a GHD, KB crawl, and get-ups, among other things.

they're really versatile and fun

Yo, kettlebell fag here. Get both an 8 kg and a 12 kg if at all possible. The 16 kg will be too much for you for a bit and the smaller two will work the shit out of your body. If you can only get one right now, get the 12 kg. That way you can do some drills like swings, getups and jerks, and gain strength for the more technical drills. Focus on snatches, swings, getups, presses, jerks, and windmills, and enjoy losing a shit ton of fat and getting lungs like fucking bellows. Don't dive in too hard, you are gonna hurt like a son of a bitch for the first couple days. Train even when your inner thighs hurt because that will make it so you don't hurt any more. Go forth and conquer.

Honestly you can probably do either the same or similar exercises with regular dumbbells, and a lot of exercises that you can do with regular dumbbells are awkward with kettlebells, such as dumbbell bench, military press, basically any pushing motion

That's because you are a fag. Pushing motions with kettlebells are ok. I'm not a kettlebell fag either.

What is with women and kettlebells? I mean, it's cool that women are finally getting in on weight training, but what's wrong with regular free weights?

presses with kettlebells is awesome if you get get fucking kettlebells aka dragondoor.com

otherwise it will make your wrist hurt and grind the bones in them, like the ones i have. i didn't know there was a difference between them but i wish i did. i just man up and now it doesn't even hurt anymore

OP again: I had no idea that kettlebells among women were a new fad. I'm just curious to try them, because I keep hearing how great they are as part of a program.

Dragondoor is over priced bullshit.

>>362469
why not buy the best you can get? have you tried cheap kettlebells versus something good like dragondoor? the difference is pretty noticeable, i've seen shitty kettlebells have the handle break off after dropping it from overhead

>>362489
Wow that's shitty.

Still not THE BEST. But go ahead and spend $100+ for <$10 in raw material and manufacturing.

OP again: I sure made a popular thread. You two are prompting me to pose yet another question:

The kettlebells I'm looking at are from Sports Authority. To me, they're pretty solid and durable, but being a n00b idunnolol. Am I going to be in a world of hurt?

lol I've seen those. Probably good enough. Sounds like you shouldn't drop them though. Also post your tits.
