Hey, mis/fit/s, this portion of the site has more or less just become a growing pile of "Hey Doc, can you help me out" threads. So, I thought that instead of the same old formula, we talk about other things in this thread. Therefore, ITT we tell about fucked up or awesome shit we have seen when it comes to training and stupid things we've either done for the sake of our own betterment, or because we got overly eager.

I'll go first then, with something I saw at a gym some years ago. Huge guy, both in the "fatless bodybuilder" and "barrelchested powerlifter" way, is lying on the bench, preparing to bench some weight I at the moment can't remember, but it was some 200++kgs. Suddenly, he just drops that shit and it sounds like somebody just stomped a cat, and everybody more or less panics until the ambulance arrives.

A less gruesome story from another gym would be this awesome guy in his mid-sixties or somesuch, that's in there every day pounding away like crazy, doing heavier weights than men half his age and half-again his weight. Most impressive of all is that he used to be paralyzed, and he'd been told that he'd never walk or train again.

And currently, in a case of overeagerness, I've put some 80lbs at one end of my barbell with the thought of lifting that shit like a massive sledgehammer would be awesome.

That made me lol.

A few years ago, I thought you could get more defined abs by doing crunches. I'm still ashamed.

Never seen anything really fucked up or awesome beyond a few of those really freakishly big guys, but I've done my fair share of stupid shit.

Once got really fired up on the thought of tying a bunch of weights on my arms and legs, and go out running. I was heading out when I looked into the mirror and realized just how fucking retarded I looked. And those ropes fucking hurt.

I'd say the majority of people actually think that's how it works. No biggie.

Yeah, but 8-minute abs said so, so it must be true, right? I mean the guy in the vid was pretty fuckn rip, lol.

you know those oblique machines you sit down on and spin the chair about an axis basically under your butthole, and weights resist your turn so you can work the obliques? Basically, you do a 90 degree turn to work out one side at a time

imagine a fat guy sitting at one, rotating once to work obliques, then letting gravity yank the chair back to starting position AND THEN HE MAKES THE CHAIR TO THE OTHER DIRECTION WITHOUT ADJUSTING IT FOR THAT ROTATION, USING ONLY THE FORCE OF GRAVITY TO "WORK THE OTHER SIDE OF HIS OBLIQUES"

then he lets gravity pull him back the original way, ad nauseum

tldr version: fatty doesn't know how to use the machine, works out his muscles almost not at all, and then breaks the hundreds-of-dollars gym machine to boot

In that fatties defense, those twisty oblique chairs can be fucking confusing. I actually had to ask one of the gym staff how the shit to use it back in the day, since my old gym didn't have instruction sheets on the machines.

i havent seen bad but ive heard stories, my weight training/fitness teacher told the class how he was in the YMCA one time and saw a lady with a personal trainer who had the lady on an exercise ball doing dumbell butterflyes because "unstable surfaces help workout more muscles" which is bs, well the ball popped, and she slammed her head on the floor and dropped the weights and was out cold for quite a while.

Got in a tough situation while doing close grip bench-press. I was always too much of a pussy to go extra rep without a spotter but this time i said FUCK THIS and DO IT FAGGOT.

The bar ended up on my chest with my arms locked up under it there was no one around (good thing) to help me out. I managed to free my arms from under then a barrel roll to the side. no one was around so it DIDNT HAPPEN, til now.

i recently got a bench in my garage and the arms holding the bar up are a little low so that if my arms are locked out, the bar goes over the holder.

however in my gym, the only way to reset the bar is to lock out your arms.

2+2 = almost crushed my skull, cat, and almost ripped my shoulder out.

The world champion in Muay Thai seems to find it useful.

this gym has instructions, and you have to close your eyes to miss the instructions; they're right in front of your eyes when sitting on the chair

the excercise ball does help work out more muscles. especially the core. u ever tried doing push ups on it?

I regulary see these pakis down the gym. All of them small and skinny.
They put these massive weights on the bars and them try to bench them. But when their attempting to lift the grossly too heavy weight they literally scream. GRRRAAAA AAA AA AA GRRRAAA!! And they do like 3 reps, it's hilarious.
Makes me and my mates crack up.

I know a guy who was set to be an olympic rower, in the youth team and all, then did his back in lifting weights to "Get stacked, uhrrrr". He did his back in. Doctor said he'd likely never be able to row as well ever again.

Then he had a miraculous recovery, and went back to rowing!

Then he did his back in with weights. Again. And there's no coming back this time. Poor, dumb, faggot.
