Gotta buy some decent food on a tight budget, what do I get?

Eggs. Lots and lots of eggs. Price out frozen vegetables and fruit. It's very, very hard to eat well on a little cash; you're going to have to budget down to the penny.

Bake your own bread. Bread is one of the most overpriced foods today. If you bake it yourself costs about 50 cent per bread, and its fucken easy to do.

peanut butter >> high in protein
cheaper if you buy the generic brand or the big tubs

some jelly to go w/ said peanut butter

beans, super cheap, especially if you make them yourself.
pinto beans for every cup of dry beans add 1.5-2 cups of water, add about 1.5 table spoons of salt, add about 1/5 - 1/4 cup of oil [so they don't stick as much]. boil until they're soft and eatable, keep stirring them every 10 mins or so so they don't stick to the bottom.. you might want a little bit of onion or garlic for flavor and nutritiousness. over time you'll add more or less salt depending on how u like them. we're 5 and that usually lasts us a week, so u probably need less. you can leave in the fridge for a bout a week or until they start to smell/taste funky. otherwise buy the canned beans, but that's way more expensive.

you can put some drained beans [no watery stuff] in a pan w/ a little bit of oil to make them like re-fried, mash them up as you warm/fry them. you can probably do this w/ out the oil but make sure they dry up as much as possible.
buy some nacho ships/tostadas to go w/ them.

mashed potatoes, you know the big flake boxes.

mac & cheese, on sale i got them for 50 cents

rice, also sorta cheap. don't know how to make it, i usually just eat it at my bf's cuz he has a rice cooker

I've thought of doing that but i haven't done the math of the savings since i'd still have to fire up the oven and the apartment gets hella hot.

>rice, also sorta cheap. don't know how to make it
this calls for a /fit/ cooking lesson.

half fill glass bowl wih rice. (Goddamn right you fuckers, it's brown)

fill with water above the level of the rice

microwave until water has all gone from above the level of the rice and if the rice is soggy microwave a couple of minutes more.

If you buy it, you will come.

You will also be able to enjoy hassle free brown rice anytime, boosting your overall health by orders of magnitude.

what are you guys retarded? You can't cook rice?

You take the rice right. Put it in a pot. Add about 2x as much water as you have rice. Put pot on some kind of magic heat source(I recommend a stovetop). Wait until it turns into the rice you wanted. Stir sometimes.

If you want to go absolutely batshit fucking crazy you could also add spices or a chicken bouillon to the water. Note that this is only for advanced cooks as adding a 2nd ingredient is a big step you may not be ready for...

Seriously. wtf. Making rice is as hard as heating canned soup.
