Bath? Anonymous
Dear /fit/

Maybe it is a fuck stupid question... but

Do I burn any calories by taking a hot bath? I am usually exhausted after taking a hot bath for a longer period.

I heard that if you scream really loudly for 8 years you exert enough energy to heat up a cup of coffee.

Taking a hot shower won't increase your internal core temperature by much. Saunas really aren't good for weight loss either. You will sweat but I guess because that sweat isn't coming from increasing body heat, it doesn't do much. The reason a good workout will make you sweat is essentially because you are heating up your body by that much, exponentially. Outside heat sources is cheating and that's why it doesn't really work.

cold will do more for you than heat ever could as far as caloric expenditure. Think about it - your body has to spend more time warming itself up which uses energy. When you are overheated your metabolic rate will decrease so as not to inflict too much heat upon your brain. Granted you activate your sweat glands but so the fuck what? Your internals have ceased activity. In the cold your internal regulation will be in hyperdrive trying to keep your core temperature up.

the water pressure squeezes on your body making it work a little harder as well.
