hey guys...so i've been losing weight over the past two months and i have alot more to lose.

I've noticed that the best way for me to lose weight is fast walking. easy on the joint, equipment free and i dont have to drive anywhere to do it.

I aim for 4 miles everyday. However, with the winter months coming up, i have no clue what to do in order to dress for the weather. I don't want to get sick so i want to stay away from cotton and shit so that i;m not walking around for an hour in a soaking wet garment.

But what should i invest in to keep my body warm without dressing like an arctic soldier? Like what hsould i get for socks, gloves, hats, under shirts...remember, i want to stay warm but i dont want to be walking around like an eskimo.

I wear the same all year round. shorts, tshirt. Running warms me up. How can you be cold if you're dripping with sweat 'n shit?

because i live in CT where it gets cold as fuck from late october to mid april. i'm not talking about 40 degrees. have you ever been to new england during the winter? there is a reason it took about 100 years for the original settlers to not die of disease/elements up in these parts.

so how about some serious answers from people who AREN't 15 year olds trying to impress people by runing around the track in a snow storm in shorts and t-shirt?
>> Anonymous
yeah right . i live in finland and in winter we have -20-30°C
and i run with a college t-shirt and shell suits pants

I don't really get the question. Just wear whatever keeps you as warm as you want to be. I might try undershirt, long sleeve shirt, and windbreaker while wearing regular socks and shoes. Wouldn't be running in the snow, since that's a recipe for fucking myself. Probably mittens since I won't need my fingers. I'm in the midwest though, so maybe NE winters are that much worse.

+1 to that company for spelling Armour correctly

hurr hurr it dosent work that way

exactly. NE is pretty intense during the winters. you're not just talking about a drop in temps. Less sun, higher winds, freezing fucking cold, snow, freezing rain...all hat bad shit. RIght now in the fall i just throw a hoodie on and some sweat pants but when the winter comes i want to be prepared.

pretty much. ti simplify what i'm asking...i'm looking for advice on light weight and thin fitness aparell that wicks up the sweat and moisture and provides warmth.

Is under armor good for the colder months? Because like i said...moisture and warmth are my biggest concerns. i dont need to be a sponge in 20 degree weather with even colder gusts of wind.

fuck underarmor. Go get a long sleeve shirt made from smartwool. Its natural wool but soft like cotton, stays warm even when drenched, stays cool in summer

You don't think you're making this harder than it needs to be? You sound like a Californian or some shit, getting spooked by cold weather.

>>410225
lol okay buddy..keep thinking that a long sleeve shirt and sweat pants are the best thing for you in the winter when you're running.

who cares about getting sick or staying warm or any of that shit? I have to impress people by trotting around half naked in the winter time. GO ME!

FWIW, I would probably wear more than that. I'm just saying, why this need for special winter-running technologee? Haven't you seen a few winters by now? It's not like if you choose the wrong outfit for your daily run, you die without passing Go. But no, the garments you own don't have enough buzzword technology built in. Also don't run in the snow or rain, you idiot.
>> Anonymous
>>410252
lol its not about buzzwords or technologies. it's about staying comfortable and not fucking cold.

man up and wear a wetsuit

I'm aware of your pansy weather. I will enjoy my snow.

It's getting cold as shit where I live, I dress up like I would for a walk in the summer (shorts, and shirt) then I put on a part of loose pant and a jacket over that.

I know you said not wanting to look like a fucking eskimo, but the added weight will work you out more and you won't freeze to death trying to exercise.

I think that was his point..."Californians" are so used to the warm LA weather that exists throughout the state that if they were faced with cold weather of somewhere like New England, then they would become scared...

However, what was forgotten was that California has FUCKING MOUNTAINS and AREAS NOT BY THE BEACH that do get COLD. Maybe not to certain extremes, but living in the Central Valley sucks ass...110 during the summer and 35 during the winter. Hot enough to not want to go outside, and cold enough not to snow.

35? Try averaging 15 in the northeast.

Wisconsin USA mis/fit here.

I travelled to Cali (San Jose) in October 2 or 3 years ago. It was snowy rainy here, but 60's where I was staying. I was thrilled so I was the only one swimming laps in the pool, while the locals were wearing jeans and sweatshirts. It's all a matter of perspective.

OP, since you always have been living where you are at, why not layer a few items and run. If it's uncomfortable, the next night adjust accordingly. As mentioned by other anons, you sound like you are unused to dealing with your weather.

Why not call your mommy and ask her what you should wear?

I'm from MA, and I have to say, the winters here are pretty bad. It's better than having to worry about earthquakes, tornadoes, and hurricanes, though.

In all seriousness, I have to start walking/jogging/running, and I want to be wearing the proper stuff. Is it that bad to just wear sweatpants and a hoodie?
>> Anonymous
look for clothes made from merino wool - it's the shit.

Layers too - bottom, mid and top - start out with all three, then take the top off when you get hot. tie it round your waist or something.

where do you live? that's sort of relevant

here in texas it gets down to 20-30C consistently during winter with slight wind, and for me, sweatpants and a hoodie is sufficient

for people in, say, chicago, i'd say the same thing but with maybe long johns on underneath the pants, and a long sleeve sweater on underneath the hoodie

if you're walking, what about a muffler or something?

also gloves (i usually pull my hands into my sleeves)

Some people, like me, have more trouble staying warm. I get freezing cold in 50 degree F weather in shorts and S/S t-shirt.

That said, bump for interest.

Can you explain what you mean by layering?

Do you consider the first layer to be underwear?
