Okay, /fit/. Let's see if you can be helpful.

I'm obese. Female, 5'7", 225lb. I have been for pretty much my entire life. It never actually bothered me, but I'm starting to get older, and now I'm worried. I have mostly belly fat and my family has a history of diabetes. In short, I know I fucking need to lose some weight.

I moved to a very hilly city about 2 months ago where I go to university. With how much more activity in walking, etc, I dropped 5 pounds. (When I arrived I was 230). I also started going to the gym 3 times a week, primarily working on an exercise bike. The most I've been able to stay active in the gym is 25 minutes, and that was on a good day; it's usually around 20.

The biggest hurdle I have is food. I can't seem to change my diet to anything that still tastes good but is better for me. I can't will myself to eat salads, because they're disgusting. I dislike a lot of kinds of vegetables, but I do like some. And I am addicted to sugary foods. I've even tried throwing them all out of the house. When I do that, I'll be thinking about any way to get the slightest bit of sweet, or sometimes just end up going to the store to buy them.

TL;DR:
a) how long should I expect to wait before "stepping up" my workout time? Does it take a while?
b) websites/cookbooks for -tasty- healthy cooking that is reasonably cheap and easy
c) realistic tips on how to fight a sugar addiction other than "willpower", as that's fucking failed me for the last 15 years.

If I were you i would go with stews. I've never been able to willingly eat a salad and enjoy it but stews are a different case.

Anything that doesn't have potatoes in the ingredients or cream in its name. Chilies work as well but just make sure you get a good amount of veggies in there with the meat.

As for your sugar addiction I don't fucking know. Maybe you can try and ween yourself down to lower levels. Water down your drinks a bit more each day and lower the amount of cookies and shit too. If you have to have sugary stuff then at least stick to fruits instead of processed stuff.

also... its already time to push yourself to do a little more cardio, the body starts burning fat about 20-30 minutes into a cardio workout. do 20 min in bike, then after at least 20 min in a treadmill at a comfortable pace for you, not too slow and not too fast. try walking at around 3 - 3.5mph. Push yourself to the limit. then a little more. thats how i got to lose over 60 lbs.

Kill yourself you pig disgusting bitch, if you want to stop beaing a hambeast it's simple, eat less, exercise more, you obviously don't want it that bad, or you are so mentally weak you don't deserve to live.

Every few days set up some healthy snacks in the morning, plan healthy smaller meals and when you are hungry grab a glass of water and a snack if you are still peckish, and do lots of cardio. If you can't stick to it just accept you are a whale and get on with your big fat life, you obviously don't care about how pig disgusting your body is nor how fast you are wobbling your way into an early grave if you can't just stop putting shit in your mouth, it's not a vacuum, you put the food in there it doesn't do it on it's own. Buy less shit, eat less shit and do more exercise, jesus fucking christ. Or find someone to live with to force you to stop being such a weak willed spineless failure.

Hey. A little advice if you are still around. It's all about portions. Eat a small meal no more than about the size of your hand, like one sandwich or a 6 oz. or meat or something, a handful of whatever. Do that every 3 hours, or when you just are really hungry. That ups your metabolism. And you burn more fat. Also, salads are awful, but its more about not eating processed foods. For example, make it yourself instead of eating out. Cook some nice stir frys, use extra virgin olive oil when necessary, its good for you. Try to stay away from the microwave. Also, keep track of your calories. Keep it no more than what you need for your body type...approximately 2000 calories for girls, 2500 for guys. Don't go over that unless you are working out alot. Eat after excercising, your body needs calories to fuel your muscles. If you don't, they will consume muscle tissue instead.

stir fry shit, DONT USE OIL, ull burn up a lot of the fats and grease, and most vegetables i find taste a lot better stir fried, and id suggest not using a sauce on it after, get some kind of shake on meat spicey stuff, and have it with white rice, i eat this allll the time, its filling, and pretty damn healthy, and to fight the sugary stuff, u can kick a sugar drink habbit pretty easily, i found it only took a day or two to get over the slump of no extra boost, water sucks so i tend to drink a lot of juices, but keep it far away from me on my desk so i dont just chug it down, when its sittin there i just feel less thirsty cfause i know i can just take a sip if i needed it, and if ur eating sugar candy crap, not sure about that, i cant stand eating mcuh candy myself so iunno.

There are many different ways to say the SAME THING. If your "willpower" has failed you in the past, you're going to have to learn how to develop it. Losing weight is as psychological as it is physiological. Read www.craigharper.com.au and all its archives. If you read those articles and can't apply any of it, you journey was over before it started.

Make use of that. You've already lost 5 lbs from the extra load. Get out there and walk to your limit (20 min amirite?). Do this everyday for a week, no fucking excuses. Stepping up 5 minutes a week, work your way to 60 minutes of walking everyday. Once you're there, start jogging. Same method as walking, only do it M-F. The most important thing is to be able to jog without stopping. If your uni has a pool, you can make use of that too.

If you listen to a lot of people who are in the fitness game, you don't eat to enjoy it, you eat for the fuel. I'm not saying you're doomed to never enjoy yourself again, but you're going to have to grow up and start eating clean.

Start making your meals smaller. 5-6 meals a day, add moar fruit and vegetables, stay away from processed shit, drink moar water, no soda/alcohol.

You have to keep yourself occupied. I'm the same way, if I'm doing nothing, I default to eating food.
This will probably a constant struggle all my life and I've accepted that. The trick is to get a few hobbies (preferably athletic ones), meet people of the opposite sex so you remain motivated (as a guy, that's a huge factor for me) and make small changes to your diet.
Before you scoff down food, ask yourself how hungry you are and eat accordingly. Just walk away when you've had enough - it seems like the toughest thing at the time but you thank yourself afterwards and best of all it gets easier and easier to do over time.

this may be a non-sequitor but if you are a person whose parents raised you without learning to enjoy eating healthy food, i don't see how you can become healthy in your life as an adult. seriously, it must be so fucking hard.

if my mom made nothing but mac and cheese and hot dogs, instead of steamed cabbage & fish with occasional sweets, i would be a freaking whale.

I think that motivation needs to be your clear cut goal right now. 20-25 minutes at the gym is okay for starters but you definitely want to double that easily sooner or later.
Though i have never been obese, but rather out of shape, i had some trouble getting to the gym to get fit for the army, but a recruiter helped me out and gave me the PT for the army and marine corps for people considering joining that i think can help you. It will set guidelines and is a free resource. Ask any recruiter for a copy and they will be more than happy to help.
