Is it possible to work TOO hard?

I dont mean too much, as in not let your muscles rest and rebuild. I mean can you strain your body so much from a workout that it doesnt recover?

Refering to weightlifting/running/squatz/sports

I alternate when I go to the gym.

Cardio
Weights
Cardio
etc

I don't take rest.
