First time doing HIIT Anonymous
So I started doing HIIT as part of my normal workout today. Before I would ride a stationary bike for 20 minutes at the start of my workout to get my heartrate around 155-160.

I did HIIT by riding for 2 minutes to warm up, full out riding as fast as I can for one minute, riding at my normal pace for 4-5 minutes, sprinting for another minute, 5 minutes at a normal rate, sprinting for a minute, and riding normally for 4 minutes (added up to 20 minutes).

After that I went to do the rest of my workout, and during my first exercise (3 sets of 10 reps on a Captain's Chair) I felt like I was going to fucking pass out! I felt really faint and didn't want to push myself, so I just left.

Anyway, my point is, is this normal? Is it just because this is my first time doing HIIT? Was 20 minutes too much? I clocked my heart rate over 170, which is twice my resting heart rate (80). Is that dangerous?

I don't go to the gym again until Friday, should I try only doing HIIT for 10 minutes instead of 20?

This guy is mostly correct.

Whatever your full-force exercise is should be more around a 30 second max. If you can do a lot more than that, then it isn't strenuous enough of an exercise. (generally).

OP here.

To be honest, I was struggling for the last quarter of every minute. But yeah, I thought a minute was how long you're supposed to do the high intensity part, not 30 seconds. Maybe that'll help
