What kind of exercise is best to try and slim down? Cardio? Also the best diets and such.

Fine, if not bacon, natural foods such as veggies, lean meats, and whole wheat products. There is no real established "diet" that'll ever work. Weight loss requires lifestyle change.

Also, anything that gets your heart rate up that you can maintain for 45 minutes is the best exercise for weight loss.

Tabatas are a good fat burning exercise. For those not in the know, 20 seconds of as many reps as possible of a given exercise, 10 seconds of rest. Repeat this pattern for four minutes. Try it with burpees!
