Hey /fit/ I'm about 5'1", 300lbs+, 19 years old and female. I don't remember a time in my life where I was anywhere near thin, I've been a fatty mcfattington since birth, plus my whole entire family being obese bastards doesn't help me much either. I've been this way all through elementary school and highschool and I'm sick of it. I've been trying to diet and lose weight since forever, living at home is just no option for this, no one buys anything healthy EVER. I have however done pretty well these past few months and have managed to lose about 50lbs by trying to just eat soup and drink water. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process such as certain foods drinks or diet pills?

Does /fit/ have any tips for me to lose weight and keep it off?

Lol, eating 1 can of soup and lots of water a day isn't alot.

I also can't work out all that much until I lose alot more cause of a knee injury I had a long ass time ago, which prolly helped along with my obeseness.

If you can find one of these it should be able to handle your cardio needs. Low impact so it should be ok on the knees.

Can't really give you any advice besides the obvious, which I'm sure you're aware of (cardio + low calorie healthy food = lose weight).

You could always join the stickied progression thread if you're in need of some good old peer pressure... motivation.

I'm amused that the fat people are consistently so harsh on themselves. No opinion either way, just amused

soup and water isn't a lot, its actually pretty bad since you're gonna slow your metabolism a lot. do some walking as long as its not going to cause knee problems. eat stuff like rice, tuna, chicken, whole wheat bread, 1% milk, fruits, vegtables, natural peanut butter isn't too bad either. try for 5-6 smaller meals a day to keep your metabolism burning calories. avoid sweets/soda etc. lots of water is good, do at least a gallon, and if you're really 300lbs you could probably even do as much as a gallon and a half a day without any problem.

on the plus side, if you really put your mind to it, you could lose weight surprisingly quickly to a certain point. at ~300 lbs you could be dropping 5-10 lbs for a while.

just don't get discouraged, the most important thing i could tell you is that you have to want to do it for yourself. i lost next to nothing when my friend was dragging me to the gym with him, but when i decided to do it for myself i ended up dropping 60lbs in 3 months and gained a lot of muscle/strength

Go on an Atkins diet, it works. Drink lots of water, pick up some low-impact aerobic exercises and be patient. Steer clear of the carbs and even with a low metabolism you should lose around 2kg (4lb) every month, if not more.

My brother has shown atkins diet works, and he does it now and then when he wants to lose weight. But we both agree it isn't healthy.

I might watch carbs and not overdo it, maybe cut them a bit, but wouldn't resort to cutting them altogether when I can lose weight without doing so.

I wanna take a pot shot or two though:
Do you eat potato chips? Sugar? Just removing those can lead to drastic changes depending on how much they are abused (which is really easy to do)

Also I don't have any real education on it, but I do remember from a health class that losing weight too fast is unhealthy also. I think they said about 2lbs a week is ok? Just stick it out.

Peppers may do something to help if the crap I hear is true, maybe look into it.

I believe doing it healthily in general will go towards keeping it off. I'm not sure just soup is good, but again I know nothing.

thats true, but if you're extremely overweight, i think its more healthy to get it off.. regardless of how fast.. i was 260 and there were days i'd randomly drop 6 lbs and keep it off (i weighed myself every day and made a chart of it in excel) i wasn't starving myself either.. 5-6 meals a day tuna on wheat, brown rice, salad no dressing, 2-3 apples or oranges a day, whey protein, etc etc got to 190

adding to that, I think it's good to form good habits, especially in eating. Do you think your current soup diet is good to keep in the long run? What happens when you lose the weight, do you go back to how you ate before?

If so, you will definitely gain the weight back. Form good eating habits.

This is probably your main problem, as referenced by>>27980
Starving yourself isn't dieting. You're likely to gain weight upon starving yourself, as your body assumes there's a food shortage and you need to save more fat(/energy) to keep living until food is found.

The atkins diet doesn't cut off carbs, it just reduces them below a certain level, thus encouraging your body to use calories instead of using carbs for energy and storing calories.

And it's just at first, too. Once you've lost most of your weight, you slow down, slowly increasing the carb ammount (to around a max of 100g of carbs per day... which is alot).
Sure, you'll never reach the point in which you can eat pizza every day but, hey, that sort of behaviour is what got you into trying to lose weight in the first place, right?

diets are stupid. you need to get into a healthy eating habit that will last forever, diets are almost by definition short term.

>>28025
You mean because of the high protein content? I don't see how. I eat exactly the same ammount of meat and fish products as I did before. I just cut on complex sugars, caffeine, booze and carbs. If anything, I think my liver is better off.

The atkins diet isn't ever supposed to end. The last phase of it is maintaining a healthy weight for the rest of your life.
Indeed, it says right away that it is a diet to the original meaning of the word: a way of consuming what your body needs, not a quick way to starve yourself for a handful of months so you can fit into a bikini.

get some control in your life. i mean with money. get some money, buy your own foods.

Thanks /fit/.

Yeah, I know the whole eating 1 can of soup a day isn't a good thing, But so far it's worked until I lose enough weight to start working out more. I've brought more foods into my diet, trying to eat some fruit along with the soup a day, and drinking milk and orange juice + my shit ton of water, so far everything is good. Do you think if I bring in diet pills it would speed the process up? Do diet pills these days even work, and if so what brand?

I might get into that thread, yep good ol' peer pre--motivation.

The Atkins Diet is a relatively low-calorie diet that restricts major food groups including grains, fruits, and dairy products. Such diets are not typically recommended for pregnant or lactating women, children, or others with increased caloric and/or nutrient needs.

Due to the lack of carbohydrate (the body's preferred source of fuel for muscles) in the Atkins Diet, the diet is also not recommended for athletes or individuals who engage in regular, high-intensity exercise.

Stein K. High-protein, low-carbohydrate diets: do they work. J Am Diet Assoc 2000 Jul;100(7):760-1. PMID:15960.

In addition, anyone with existing cardiovascular disease, or those at high risk for cardiovascular disease, should be aware that following this diet for a long period of time may increase blood cholesterol levels.

The high protein content of the Atkins Diet stresses the liver and kidneys (Stein 2000). As a result, anyone with liver or kidney disease should avoid this diet.

why not just get into a fucking healthy eating habit without cutting out most food groups from the start? theres no reason you can't just eat healthy and not risk problems down the road. and extremely overweight people across the board have enlarged/stressed livers to begin with.

btw, fuck you. you don't want to lose weight.

"thanks for all the advice guys, but i decided that what you said was too hard, so i'm just going to keep doing what i was doing anyway, because clearly i've got this fitness thing down."

you don't want to do the work, you want an easy solution and there isn't one. you will never get thin with this attitude. diet pills do not work, and even the ones with a small margin for increased weight loss really only help boost you when your close to your goal and have reached a plateau. (things like ECA stacks)

this is the same attitude MOST people have who have asked me how to lose some weight (i dropped 60 lbs in 3 months) and they all had the same reaction when it wasn't some secret i had discovered, but that i was at the gym 2 hours a day 5-6 days a week lifting and running along with eating very clean.

wow so you want to be fat and malnourished
enjoy your death

They say you should eat about every 4 hours now, if you don't, your insulin level drops below average and your body starts to actually store fat. Don't try and starve yourself

You make me rage OP. Really you do. You clearly are paying no attention to what everyone is trying to tell you about losing weight. YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG. Here, a diet plan that won't backfire on you:

Breakfast: Hard-boiled egg, 1 cup cereal, skim milk, fruit
Snack: Fruit, random veggies, yogurt
Lunch: Salad, ham, lettuce and tomato sandwich
Snack: Fruit, random veggies, soup (THIS IS YOUR SOUP. IT IS A SNACK. IT IS A DELICIOUS SNACK, BUT IT IS NOT A MEAL. IT IS DEFINATELY NOT A WHOLE DAY'S WORTH OF MEALS).
Dinner: Rice dish, salad, fruit, skim milk
Dessert: Fruit

I am a girl who is 5'6" and 115 lbs. I am in shape and eat meals somewhat like this list every day. I also work out for one or two hours every day. This is not very difficult OP.
>> Anonymous
OP you should do some low-impact cardio and eat correctly, the right food. You probably know that shit anyway though.
