I just watched a video on this:
http://www.optimal.org/peter/cron.htm

They did tests on mice. The ones with CR lived 50% longer than the ones that didn't. If it transfers over to humans, we can live up to 175. They eat around 1500 cals for a woman and 1800 for men. They exercise regularly. If its not properly balanced some of the dangers are osteoporosis, anemia, and damage to blood cells and skin. If it is properly balanced, wouldnt this be a great way to lose weight?

Also, its about cutting food drastically, keeping the nutrients. They compare it to not pushing your car so hard. If your putting a lot of gas in your car because your pushing it fast and hard, it will wear down quicker. There is a wear and tear price to pay for burning fuel in the human body as well. If you get by on less fuel, less heat, less damage to cells, you wear out the parts less, so you potentiality add decades to your lifespan.

Those numbers are not actually very low. They're less than most people need to maintain their weight, but they're not in "oh fuck what are you doing to you" territory. Lots of people eat stupider all the time.

That's what I used to weigh. Like I said, it's not uncommon to eat that amount.

There's your answer

You'd be sickly looking on that amount of calories. Seriously. You couldn't maintain any appreciable level of LBM in such a caloric restriction.

What good would living to 175 be if you're weak and scrawny?

The guy in the video did look like a holocaust victim. The main thing im trying to figure out is if this has any health risks. I mean, if someone thats 200lbs and wants to lose 50lbs went on a 1800 cal diet, would that be a healthy way to lose the 50lbs?

More or less. It would be excessive calorie restriction with all the weakness and sickliness that entails, but not dangerous in the long term.

If someone wanted to lose 50 lbs or any large amount of weight, they should do it gradually over a 6-7 month period, losing no more than 2 lbs per week and including resistance training so they maintain lean mass. If you cut calories too severely and don't regularly lift, then you'll lose quite a bit of lean mass/muscle, which will lower your metabolism and make you prone for fat gain later.

The goal should not be on weight loss, but rather fat loss.
