Running Vs. Elliptical Machine Anonymous
Hey /fit/ I'm a college fag who is going home for summer break. I plan to do a lot of cardio over the break and was wondering which would be better, running, or using an elliptical machine (same one in pic). I've heard that ellipticals are low impact, but how much of a difference does it make? By the way, I'm 18, male, 175 Lbs.

Are you two gonna give any valid reason to validate your arguments?

Have you ever met a marathon runner? They get more injuries than a granny.

our spines are actually maladjusted to a bipedal existence, it's still catching up.

Not OP, but what's a good distance for an average 18 year old to run? Average meaning fairly decent runner.

Not trolling, just seeking advice.

is the OP going to be a marathon runner? he's asking about some cardio.

OP here, you missed the entire point of the question. I was trying to determine which would be better for cardio/burning caloires since I have the elliptical machine at home and I am in fact capable of running.

Both are about equal, in that respect. So it basically boils down to which machine will motivate you more to push yourself to the limit.

Yeah I prefer elipticals purely because I have severely fallen arches. I must run terribly incorrect because after 2.5-3 miles my feet/back/knees hurt. Never had that problem with elipticals.

running burns a little bit more calories, at least from what I've heard of this board. although it's recommended for fat people to use the elliptical, since the low impact doesn't destroy their knees. if you are capable of running, just use the treadmill. If you fat/lazy, use the elliptical. I'd personally love one if I had one.

OP again, that brings up another question. Is it better to run on the track or on the treadmill? Honestly I can't stand running on a treadmill because it feels like I have to hold back because the machine isn't moving fast enough for the length of my stride.

track is better then treadmill because you've actually gotta move your body weight, where as you don't as much on the treadmill

Anything that lets me play video games while doing cardio automatically wins in my book. Stationary bike wins over these two.

alot of tracks also have a bit of cushion to them. I dont know what it was, but back during waterpolo season in highschool, despite the chubby fuck i was, i could get on the track after warming up and run for ever.

the cushion is to make it less likely for you to get shin splints.
