I recently signed up for a small gym nearby (very low membership cost, but I saw why when I saw only 30~ machines), and it's my first real try at gaining muscle.

Given I've never made a regime before, an instructor made me up a quick one and it's pretty standard 3 sets of 10 at 70% my one rep max, starting with legs, and going up to arms (arms being last). I haven't started yet, but I will be next week.

I'm 19 years old, 188 pounds, and just under 6 feet tall. What kind of advice do you suggest if I want to gain mass? My instructor said that given my weight and height, she doesn't see me getting leaner, but she says I will gain mass with the regime she set for me.

tl;dr: how many squats do i need to get mussles

Pic unrelated, but my gymnast of choice.

Eat more food if you want to gain mass.

I try. I eat a lot of pasta, rice, beef (very big on beef), and fish. I eat maybe 4,000 calories a day and the only gains I've seen has been about 5 pounds in the past 10 or so months.

i call bullshit.

if you eat all that and DO NOT TRAIN at your current stats + 'not needing to get leaner'...get checked immediately for hyperthyroidism...cuz there's no way for an untrained, unathletic scrub to be sitting pretty on 4000cal as a RESTING maintenance rate
