/fit/, I have a question. I used to be in excellent shape, but a year and a half ago, I got extremely sick, gained about 30 pounds, and stopped running and lifting. I am currently 200 lbs and wish to get down to my usual weight of 170, no time limit to do so, btw. I also want to get a small amount of muscle built back up with a shitload of toning. I know how to go about doing both of these; my question to you is should I do solely cardio until I lost the weight and then lift, or can I somehow effectively do both at once?

do both, your overall caloric intake will determine whether you lose weight or gain weight; you won't "gain muscle" and "lose fat" but you can minimize muscle loss if you are losing weight

heh... that's exactly what I thought. When I get sick I lose weight... unfortunately it's usually muscle. :(

I find after bulking it's easier to cut, it's like your metabolism is in overdrive trying to support your new muscle mass. Of course, you can *try* to get a clean bulk, but it's really disappointing because it feels like an eternity to make even small gains. But it all depends on the person.

What had happened was I was bedridden for about a month and during that time, all I could do was play the vidya and eat snacks and shit. That translated into a big weight gain, albeit unintentionally.
