Canned food.

I'm skinny, looking for a cheap way to eat healthy. Is canned food a go for dinners as long as it looks relatively nutritious?

Watch out for the sodium and preservatives.

Well, it isn't that sodium is bad, it's that TOO MUCH sodium is bad. If you eat canned foods all day and aren't careful, you could greatly exceed your RDA for sodium. Granted, RDA is obviously not the be-all, end-all guide to food consumption, but still, too much sodium isn't good for you. Try to stay fairly close to the RDA for sodium, if you can.

The average U.S. diet has 6-7 times the sodium over the body's needs. Preservatives... are the boon of this era. Stay away from as many as you can. Sorry I know that's not the real answer but I'm sleeping soon.

Frozen is better than canned. No real preservatives need to be added. Just don't refreeze, everything turns to crappiness then.

A lot of sodium is only bad for you if you have hypertension/high blood pressure. Otherwise your body just pisses the extra out.
