I would like to discuss equipment.
So far I know Eleiko and Ivanko, both very good, but very expensive.
What are alternatives? I'm especially interested in buying bumper plates.
Halp fit.

just drop the weights on your testicles, bumper plates are for women.

Don't buy into name brands when it comes to this stuff, son.

A weight is a weight is a weight. And as long as the bar isn't made of out aluminum foil, a bar is a bar is a bar.

Unless you're a big time olympic lifter, I wouldn't count on trashing your equipment any time soon.

When it comes to grip handles some are better than others i.e. some have a grip, some are a plain bar which forces you into using gloves for grip.

So in a way, the brand does matter if you are buying it with a bar.

I heard that cheap plates can crack if you throw the weight on the ground.

Get some of that gritty black tape and wrap it around the bar where you're going to be gripping, then. It's like 2 bucks a roll at sporting goods stores.

Then don't do that.

And I'm saying that if this guy is coming to us asking our opinions on top-tier lifting equipment, he's obviously not a top-tier lifter.

Unless he's loading his bar in excess of 500 pounds (which I doubt) a cheap one will last him just fine. When his bar actually bends, then he can worry about it.

As for cracking your plates from throwing or dropping them, there's no reason to be doing that anyway.
