should i de-weight at the bottom of deadlift or tap and go?
>> Anonymous
deweight faggot. thats why its called a deadlift.
>> Anonymous
just drop the bar at the top of the lift.

let out a large grunt as you do this.
>> Anonymous
It's called a deadlift because you're pulling from a dead stop
>> Anonymous
it's harder to reset after each deadlift than it is to tap and go (crossfit taps and goes on their circuits for better times)

protip: crossfit is gay.
>> Anonymous
>>380405
protip: you tried crossfit for 3 days and quit because you couldn't handle it!

protip: i don't do crossfit, but I do workouts based off it and thousands of other people do as well and they are quite amazing

he's asking a TECHNIQUE and FORM issue

the LAST PLACE IN TEH WORLD YOU WOULD WANT TO GET EITHER FROM IS CROSSFIT

"elite" athletes my fucking ass.

i attended a seminar held @ a crossfit center, got to watch a WOD (same on their videos)

worst form i have EVER in my life seen for any lifts. worse than xbox hueg ego'ed gang banger nigs lifting in highschool

dead stop, reset form + lower back, pull again, repeat
>> Anonymous
>>380494

so you base the whole system because a few people were doing a slightly modified form? awesome, you must hate every training regimen and make up your own groundbreaking shit. oh yeah i forgot to get your name? what was it? so i can look for it in the next S&C journal
>> Anonymous
>>380467

this guy's got it right. also, cross fit is bad ass.

1. learn proper form
2. do everything really fucking fast
3. ???
4. Ultra athleticism
>> CWheezy !!bJFrM5LONOF
>>380503
That's becuase the best athletes in every sport trains crossfit, right?
>> Anonymous
>>380508

it's people like you who know nothing about fitness or anything regarding fitness that think they do that i fucking hate

did he say elite athletes used it? no. is the foundation and goal of crossfit to become an elite athlete? no. what do you need in order to become an elite athlete? SPORT SPECIFIC TRAINING, AND CROSSFIT DOESNT DO THAT SO HOW THE HELL COULD CROSSFIT ACHIEVE THAT
>> CWheezy !!bJFrM5LONOF
>>380514
Did you read the post I was referring to? Where it says "ultra athleticism"?

And yes, there is a lot of sport specific training. But they still manage to become really good athletes, and in great shape.

So you're saying people should do crossfit, and be not that great, instead of training similar to an elite athlete, and getting relative results. Awesome
>> Anonymous
>>380520

because everyone wants to be an elite athlete? that is retarded, most people who do crossfit are regular people, or firefights/miltary/police folks that have no interest or wouldn't benefit from an elite athlete workout regiment

FEW PEOPLE? go online, go even to the "stars" of the xfit world in the videos have shit form by circuit 3 of "Angie" on the powercleans.

the FORM is shitty, you cant possibly defend it, and its understandable. look at the task. its the nature of the game. crossfit makes the subject do highly coordinative, complex lifts in a fatigued state = poor demonstration of said skill

i am not getting in a pro-con fight over crossfit.

the nature of the tasks leads to form flying out the window. this is unarguable. basic facts of motor learning and application.

also, remember, Crossfit is the ILLUSION of athleticsm. no 'elite' athletes Coach talks about actually exist outside of the realm of crossfit. (sure, operators+cops, but thats a different skill set and task completely) you are likely a metcon fanatic who is passible at most things, decent at nothing. You never were trained by someone with a CSCS in your lifts, your Oly lifting was never trained by a USAW, and neither were those involved in Xfit.

enjoy your kool-aid. I'm sure Coach would be proud of your Obama like fanaticsm.

i am not shitting on your parade, just dont preach the 'universal wonders' of the Crossfit cult to the masses

i already said I don't do crossfit met-con, but the fact that all of hate it on it because form goes out the window is retarded. so many good things came from crossfit that it's hardly justifable to hate on it just because the nature of it was to create a new sport of metcons involving lifting.

I understand their form isn't on par with olympic lifters or power lifters because you can't go full 100% and keep form otherwise you will lose time. I don't agree with that either but that's no reason to completely disregard whole thing together.

I embrace it for the amazing concepts and reinstitution of many workouts that were long gone forgotten.
>> CWheezy !!bJFrM5LONOF
>>380531
I said relative results. Also, it's not just because of their training that they are that athletic, it is genetics as well.

Besides, training they do works really well. Why do something that's less effective?

wut?

try a bit more of a cohesive, english speaking arguement before you decide to two-step with me.

this discussion was about FORM and TECHNIQUE. you've already ceded both points to me. this is not about the 'general relative good of exercise program X' you LOSE sir, goodday!

exactly what i mean

this is a discussion about FORM and TECHNIQUE on the muthafucking deadlift, you know, an exercise where those 2 traits probably matter more (to your spine and health) than any other thing you can do w/your body...you respond, in classic Crossfit fashion with

>who cares, i don't care about form or technique regarding crossfit

now it can be

My god.

The level of stupid being displayed in this thread is beginning to make me rage. I feel the desire to impart unto you a gift of knowledge and win, but I can't help but feel that you would all be too stupid to understand it.

'Guess I'll just go do it on a REAL fitness board instead.

shit, this place makes t-nation look like a symposium on theoritical astrophysics

assholes (me) and ignorant fucks (the masses) with a few trolls and tripfags in between

why do you even come here if you don't want to argue? that's the only reason i come here, if i came here to learn shit then i would as retarded as everyone else. I go to catalyst athletics, crossfit, or t-nation boards for actual information.

i just waste time here because i'm bored a lot

>>380633
in this case, arguing against my position on motor learning + form and technique in deadlift is like arguing that the world is flat

sure you can do it, but you're a fuckin idiot

the big problem is that there is no 'norming' here, as in, every1 else is medically retarded, so no one can come in as an arbitor and say which side is right/wrong

so the world is flat people keep thinking they are correct and the people just watching don't know who to believe (altho its a night and day difference between the 2 points)

hell, just look @ the commentary for "weight type of reps build strength vs hypertrophy" that arguement makes me lulz endlessly as people are describing an issue that completely, 100% misses the 'means' for achieving either goal.
>> Anonymous
>>380646
i'm not going to lie, i wasn't arguing about deadlift form or technique or anything of that nature. i know crossfit does that and that's why i don't do it, i'd rather not blow out my back again doing that.

what i was arguing about was the fact that people were calling crossfit gay, etc. crossfit is awesome for people who are average folks wanting to have some sort of fitness level (whether it's elite or not is subjective, i think you cannot become elite if you do crossfit, you're only elite at crossfit itself) or people like military/police/firefighters because it's not time-consuming as the workouts rarely are over 20 minutes and you don't need to know anything other than the lifts.

if i went off topic then that's probably my fault, call me retarded but i kind of got a little mad when people just shot down crossfit.
>> Anonymous
note, i am a tripfag. you can tell which are my posts and which are not. i do that intentionally to aid in comprehension, which you clearly need even MORE help in. i wasnt going after Xfit, i was trying to keep this discussion on the topic at hand (DEADLIFTS MUTHRFUCKR)

others were jumping in a the anti-pro shit, i dont care. as long as you do something. ok. your view of xfit is correct and fine. however, when people get on say Xfit is THE BEST THING EVER FOR ALL TOTALLY ELITE OPERATORS AND ATHLETES CUZ WE ARE GODS...then i get more excited.

my biggest problem with crossfit, which you can see me comment from in the VERY 1st poast i make, is that you fuckers ALL HAVE TERRIBLE FORM due to the nature of the exercises and training protocols (enduranc). and as such, all these random 'average' guys and girls who are doing very complex movements without ANY APPROPRIATE training!, foundation!!, or background!!! is a sure fire way to get hurt. just like you did. thats why crossfit is stupid and gay. it leads to mediocrity (ie. max DL is under 315) or injury (if you actually try to push yourself and get better)
> know crossfit does that [injury] and that's why i don't do it, i'd rather not blow out my back AGAIN doing that
>> Anonymous
+1 for deweight. Don't just drop the weight from the top though, hold onto it until it's back on the floor (required for legal lift in powerlifting meets, so a good habit to practice I'd say).

Kid in OP pic is basically doing an SLDL.. the bar isn't even passed his knees and his legs are straight! Bad.
>> Poliquin on Xfit Anonymous
well, Jesus Christ himself speaks on Crossfit (just posted today)

Q: What do you think of that Crossfit stuff?

A: I have no clue what the hell that is. Is that one of those systems that's a mish-mash of everything?

Wait, I saw on article on that in Muscle & Fatness. Looked like a bunch of cachexic fitness-model wannabes searching for their souls in the weight room.

It reminds me of a Hungarian proverb: "If you only have one ass, you can't sit on two horses." If you try to do everything in your workout, you get nothing.

Another way to look at it is to think of Tim Ferris's example of wearing your underwear over your pants. It's different, and maybe even fun for some people, but it's not very effective.

No athlete has ever gotten good training like that.

i just don't like the fact that crossfit fags KNOW their form is shitty and continue to do it just to keep their omgrecordtime!

even better, they are PROUD of this

like its some badass sign of war wounds, etc. if you ever want to see the koolaid getting drunk, check out their 'injuries section' forum on their website

random people getting totally fucked over for life just so they can post a 'time' for their 115 deadlift circuit...and this is encouraged
