I have friend who says they do 100 sit ups nearly every morning and night. Everything I have read said its bad to work out everyday, but they have fantastic abs. Is it a good idea to pick up a similar work out plan?

How can it be bad to exercise regularly? Would you rather only work out once a week or what?

The thing with getting great abs is, 1) you need to work them hard for growth, and 2) you need to have a low body fat % through diet and cardio.

Your abs are a little different from your other muscles. They respond to high-rep exercises better than low-rep, and they can recover in a much shorter time, 1-2 days.

His abs could be a lot better if he learned how to do something besides sit-ups

That is such categorically foolish advice that I don't know where to begin, so I will just ignore it.

What's happening is that his abs are SO adjusted to the situp that it is more of a light cardio workout than a muscle builder. And I mean LIGHT cardio...ridiculously light. So no, it is stupid to do something like that instead of actual cardio.

having nice cut abs is more to with low fat level. doing 100's of situps everyday is utterly useless, try doing some real strength ab exercises like dragon flags or using an ab-wheel
