Yeah Ibu Profin is the best, but that doseage is a little high for most people. 2 200 mg pills should be plenty, 1 more 45 mins after if it's not helping.
If you don't want pills then just tough it out.

Taking an NSAID is not "drugging yourself up". I'm a heath-nut and practitioner of herbal medicine, and I have no problem with NSAIDS.

If you're sure about not taking any pills though, then try the ice-water soak (which is a good idea anyway). Ibuprofen is just an anti-inflammatory; ice-water will have roughly the same effect, if somewhat lessened in strength of effect and comfort of application.
