I've become concerned with my right knee lately, it suddenly doesn't want to function the way it should normally, example: it hurts when I put weight on it climbing stairs but not walking on flat surfaces. A few days ago I went on a long (long for me) bike ride, pedaled constantly for an hour while I waited for friends to get back from a trip. I only mention this because while I know cycling is a no-impact motion, I never biked for as long or strenuous as I did that day.
The next day when I woke up my knee was a little stiff, I thought I had slept on it odd or something and just needed to walk it out. I went hiking with the same group of friends, nothing insane, Giant City State Park, I didn't do all the crazy climbing they did, I stuck to the easy stuff, but my knee was getting tired and suddenly it was just painful to put weight on.
Now stuff like sitting in the backseat of a car is painful, I can't flex my leg to stretch my knee. I also noticed my knee pops more when I flex from 90 degrees to almost straight.
Is this something I should go see a doctor/specialist for, does /fit/ have any experience in knees? I'd like to get back into running (more like jogging, i'll admit) but I'm kind of afraid that any kind of strong, repetitive impact will fuck it up even more

you've over stretched your knee. I've had the same thing happen to me.

I was on holiday for 2 weeks, so I did alot of walking, then a week after I got back, I tried to walk up stairs, and almost passed out. Walking on flat surfaces was fine, it was just climbing up stairs and putting alot of weight on it.

I went to the doctors and he told me it was just over stretching, and for it to heal I just had to take it easy for a couple of days. Ie. don't move.

this is bad advice without a medical evaluation first

maybe, an evaluation is necessary to determine this... trust me... a list of symptoms is almost *never* enough to tell what an injury is

Wait...>>102743is bad advice because it is hippy bullshit, not because it came without a doctor's approval. You think acupuncture would be frowned upon by doctors? lol, they'd just laugh and say "sure, whatever your superstitious reptilian mind desires."

agreed, but I wanted to bake it seem as though a doctor was nocessary first in either case

Could be an IT band irritation. You don't give us much to go on.

Absolute rest is the best thing. Wait until you feel all better, then wait a bit longer. Then do some light intensity strengthening exercises. Then you can probably start up your usual exercise routine.

All in all though, you really should see a doctor.

looks like patella, very common, just let it heal. See the doctor. Biking is good for knees, however the saddle has to be correctly positioned (not too low and not too high - duh), furthermore it if it's strenuous (too long, up the hill etc) it is bad for knees. Just let it heal. Not sure what you mean by pop. Crepitus is normal but popping sounds may suggest meniscus issues. You don't want to have meniscus issues. If the sound is more like crunching, it's crepitus, "normal" for all patellar issues.

TENDONITIS
no joke. give it a few weeks/months

Ok, what if you're doing a clean and jerk and fuck up your form so that when you were in the motion of cleaning you felt your right knee buckle inwards? And now you feel a slight bit of instability whenever planting your feet for squats or just running around on a field? As well as minor popping when extending the knee?

I think I 'stretched' my left knee too as per>>102750
because it feels okay until I squat or walk up stairs with it.
