TBH, learning to surf, you need to be in the water. Just get in the water, find your center of balance while SITTING. then, paddle after a wave. you should see how you need to adjust your positioning so that you dont go nose first into the water, and so that you can still catch the wave. It takes a while to find this balance so. Usually, surfers in the water will be MORE than happy to help you out. Also, make your standing one smooth motion. Do NOT, WHATSOEVER, go to your knees before your feet. When getting your balance right, however, its okay to ride a wave on your knees. Just practice and get some tips from people in the water.
