sup /fit/, I'm looking to lose some fat, tone up, and generally get stronger but there is a catch
I fucked up my jaw and my doctor who is treating it tells me nothing upper body, and suggests I shouldn't even run due to the impact

though I know this is most likely the last place to find the right answer and asking my general doctor/physical therapist would be the right place to go I though I'd ask

he advises me to NOT lift due to the fact that I'll be in much increased pain, since my shoulders and neck are already in some sort of moderate pain

anyway my question would be this, if I work out these muscles even though he advises against them, suffer the obvious onset of pain, shouldn't it actually help overall?

I mean in the past year I've been so completely inactive when it comes to working out I'm beginning to think that even though I'll feel like dick during the general onset of it, It'll help in the long run to strengthen my muscles

or is it the other day around? If my muscles are already overworked and in pain can they not get stronger while getting little to no rest?

I basically just don't want to be stuck with only being able to do an elliptical/stationary bike for the next few months as I'm sure it will take 5 times as long to burn the fat, and wont do anything for my upper body

Do what your doctor tells you. He's the one with the MD, and you do not want to fuck up your jaw for the rest of your life by dicking around with it.

yes, do not do something like bench presses or whatnot, but what you can do is some bicep curls or something else, just do any exercise which do not aggravate the pain on your shoulder/neck region and you can start, you can also jog if you like

From OP:
>suggests I shouldn't even run due to the impact

Jogging should probably not be done, since it's too difficult to tell when it becomes "running".

Stick to the elliptical and bike and stop being such a whiny faggot, OP.

after lurking,

>OK YOU ALL NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK UP! Here's waht you do. Push yourself a LITTLE BIT, just to see how your body reacts, in my experience doctors have fucked over 5 times as many people as they have saved. curl some really light weight for a set or two, then try to do a few pushups on your knees. do a bodyweight squat, or a few depending how it feels. DO NOT OVERDO IT! very light exercise at 1st. give it a few days to see how your body feels. Go from there. good luck.

looks like it was intended for this thread!
