I've got a question that I should probably see a trainer/doctor about, but like usual...I've come to you for help.

When I lift my left leg up (knee above hip level,) when I lower it back down, my hip makes a disgusting poppinggrinding sound accompanied by some discomfort. Now, it's not one of those joint pops where it hurts for a second and feels better afterwards and can't be popped again for 20 min....I can do it over and over again. Sometimes, it aches. Any insight/advice/recommendations? It's not too serious now, but I can imagine that it could become quite the problem in the future.

Also: it's been happening for at least a month.

similar thing for me
just when I raise my leg (eg. hanging straight leg raises), if I go parallel then there is a pain in the side of my leg near the hip.

I think it's an issue with stretching, but not sure.

Had the same problem. Stopped lifting altogether for 2 months and the pain is gone now.

This is how I'm reading your situation: your TFL is tight, forcing the iliotibial band to grind on the lateral epicondyle, because the attachment is weak (that's why you hear the popping and feel the grinding). Your surrounding muscles (glutes, adducters, abducters, quads, hamstrings) aren't strong enough, placing too much work on the TFL and other hip flexors. Do some SQUATZ and hit some of those stretches, you should be fine.

Or Im not reading the issue correctly and you can disregard everything I said. I couldn't know without having seen you
