Running before lifting Anonymous
Someone here said that running after lifting is a waste. Well, how about running before working out? I plan on running to the YMCA gym tommorow and would like to know.

Pic unrelated but awesome

Running after lifting is fine. It will get some good blood flow to your muscles for recovery.

i don't understand why it's a waste. if part of your goal is to improve your running, i don't see why it would be a waste. try it both ways. see which works best for you according to your goals and decide. /fit/ is not all-knowing.

(personal note: i used to do my running before, but that was based on my workouts. i was usually too gassed afterwards to run. but that was me.)

The key is that it totally depends on your goals and your philosophy of working out. If you want to be fit in general, its great. If you want to build a lot of bulk, you have to be very careful, for running anywhere over 15 mins can start to cause your body to metabolize your muscle and you will not build any bulk. If you want to be lean an fit, running is fine.

The YMCA is about 1.25 miles away, so it's usually around a 15 minute run.

I really can't improve my running that much since my legs are shot after being in the Marines.

so i'll assume you're doing is as some type of cardio? help with weight loss? warm up/ warm down? that's pretty short distance, so either before or after wouldn't make too much difference. again, you try and you decide.
