But the yardstick to measure your cardio by is how hard you're panting and sweating when you're done. If you think you could pant and sweat harder without dying, kick it up a notch. And pick an exercise that you can take to full intensity, such as the inclined treadmill walking, biking (stationary or mobile), and running, once you're in better shape. One can only jump jacks or run in place so hard.
2. Absolutely true. You can figure out how many calories you're using and eat 400 or 500 less than that, but don't go below 1800 (since you're male). And eat healthy, it's better for you and makes it about a million times harder to overeat.
