sup /fit/, I have been doing rippetoe's for about 2 months and have not had any problems in growing from a skinny 20 yr old to a relatively strong 20 yr old. started at 67kg and am now 76kg, 182cm in height.

what I have been failing like a bitch on is running. I started running after my 3-times-a-week workouts about 2 weeks ago, and have been trying to do 800m (the length of my street according to google maps).

after about 6 or 7 runs, i still am unable to do it in under 5 minutes. putting this in perspective, my friends who run track at uni can do it in about 2 and a half minutes. I become incredibly fucking tired after about 300m and am ready to curl up and die by 600m. the last 200m is an excruciatingly slow jog.

why am i such a bitch and more importantly - how do i improve my speed and my endurance?

tl;dr - have had huge gains with lifting but cannot run for shit. how do i get better /fit/?

Fuck running

Mix up distance with your sprints. Take a long run (At LEAST 3 miles). Afterwards, drink some water, take a break, stretch out a little. Then sprint a few 400s.

OP here. Whilst I understand that 800m (0.5mile) is an incredibly small distance and is a sprint, it feels like fucking distance running to me.

Thank you for your constructive advice, but I don't know if I can run even 1 mile, let alone the 3miles you suggest. Please note that it takes me about 5 minutes to run half a mile. fastest time is 4:19. my street is kinda hilly but nothing to complain about

How do I get my endurance up to the level where I can actually run 3miles?

Your friends who run track do 800m in two and half minutes? LOL, I don't even run frequently and my time is 2:14. Sorry if I sound like an arrogant douchebag, but fuck

Man, this shit's pretty simple. Why don't you just run the length of your street once a day or once every two days, until it gets easier? Then run 2 lengths, and so on. There's no easy way to get better. You just gotta keep trying

OP here. This is true.
