Hey /fit/
First time I've ever posted here.

I'm wondering what are the best easy exercises to tone up thighs and stomach? I work a lot and when I get home I'm generally tired as shit, so extreme workouts are not for me. I'm talking crap I can do without machines and equipment, in my own home.

I'm 5'6", 135 lbs (female too). I am a 'chubby' girl, I guess, but don't want to become buff, skinny or anything. I just want to be slightly more toned.

picture unrelated.

start with bodyweight squats to full depth, try and get to 50.

then 100,

take as much rest as your need

bodyweight squats? Sorry, I'm really uneducated in exercise.
Is that just using your own bodyweight and squatting?
And if so, full depth? Is that like, until your practically in a sitting stance or farther?

yep, all the way down, hamstrings touching calves. use your hands to balance. dont push your knees. try and get to 100.

a beginner like you will se great improvement on just bodyweight squats, your legs will hurt like hell the next day, but the next time you do it it wont be so bad. its also an incredible cardio workout too. you want to try and get better and better.

eventually you will have to start lifting weights.

Sounds decent, the only problems I can see are I have really really bad balance, knees and hips.

I just tried one, managed to not fall over, but my knee kept clicking.
Also, should my back be straight up and down or should I bend forward? (I was bending forward due to balance, ahaha)

When I started I started below body weight squats. And, finally now after a few months of training I moved up to my body weight and aim just now finally surpassing it.

remember guys, squatting is not something you are learning, its something you are remembering.

watch a baby, they squat perfectly.

its our culture and sitting in chairs all the time that we lose that mobility.

take charge and get it back

go to /rs/ and search "starting strength"
I hate to recommend a full length fucking book but the chapter on squats is awesome.
I read it entirely and now not only do I feel better about my squat form physically, but mentally I feel more confident and less of a pussy to get in my gym and do some fucking squats.

Great.
At first I was using the machine or whatever where you don't have any forward or back movement because I was kind of scared. But, then I read starting strength and ventured into the "free weight" part of my gym and did some real squats after reading and being motivated by starting strength.
By the way, I still use the "pussy pad" though for my squats. I am just more comfortable with it and I don't think it hurts anything.
Anyways, squats are like one of the only exercises I do in regards to weight lifting that really make me dig deep down, sweat, and help me fall asleep at night.
