Better skin? Anonymous
This probably gets thrown out every fortnight, but what medications did you use to get rid of acne/spots?
Creams, pills, whatever. Stuff that was prescribed?

I've tried fucking everything, and being 20 with a face like a zit-ridden 14 year old is making me a pissed off individual.

Hi I'm a licensed dermatolgoist, and diet cannot affect your acne.

Hi, I'm a doctor, and I don't know anything about the human body.

Diets can and will affect how much oil is produced on your face, which can lead to problems with acne. Whole milk is one food that is proven to change the level of facial oil in some, but not all, people who consume it.

Dermatologists will tell you that the nutritional content of food doesn't affect your skin, and they're right. It's a myth that greasy foods cause acne, for example. But, it's true that the effect some foods have on your blood sugar levels will, in turn, affect your skin BECAUSE of the blood sugar changes. It's not the food's fault, it's the EFFECT that the food has on your metabolism that causes this. Same reason a metabolism that is slowed to a grinding halt saps moisture from your skin and causes dryness, which in turn usually causes acne.

Sucks to hear. While the 10 things I listed aren't a miracle cure for everyone, they usually clear up the skin of the majority of people, because their acne is generally caused by poor hygiene and bad habits. One thing that's hard to gauge with whether or not your acne is being caused by emotional stress...no product can really fix that. You might just have unlucky genes, but I really doubt that.

Tazorac .1% - it's also proven to help prevent wrinkles, so it's the shit - kills my acne and keeps me young.

>emotional stress

Not OP, but that's what caused my acne. Taking deep breaths, learning to have fun, basic meditation, and stretching made my acne almost disappear. But mind you, this relaxation stuff was in conjunction with everything else you mentioned.

I can also vouch for proactiv being somewhat useful, but overpriced.

I had severe acne before, and proactiv cleared it a bit, but it was definitely not enough. I then went to a dermatologist who prescribed 15% benzoyl peroxide solution (proactiv only uses like 1 or 2 percent.) And well what do you know, worked like a charm.

You have to get used to it though, it has a burning sensation at the first few tries (one time I felt like my face was on fire and washed it off immediately.) It also dries your face somewhat (use a lotion that doesn't clog your pores.) But I'm MUCH better now than before and was so happy to look at the mirror and see a big difference. I now use 10% benzoyl peroxide over the shelf, though for some reason it's hard to find sometimes. Most acne products in drug stores shelves use salicylic acid.

Oh and salicylic acid didn't work for shit on me. It's for people who have the occasional pimple, not for people with acne problems...

Acne is either genetic or topical. If its topical, Demratologist or even over the counter shit works. If its genetic, Accutane works. Fuck all the people who rip that stuff, I knew a chick who took Accutane and her spots disappeared in a few weeks.

I found caffeinated drink increased the acne on my face. So when I stop drinking stuff like Coke, Pepsi, coffee. The acne really went away.

Also, eating greasy chinese food really gives me a breakout.

Just notice what you drink and eat is what causes your acne breakouts. Other than that, get Proactive. It's good for healing blemishes.

Not OP, but what should I do for blackheads (That I've had for over 4 years now) I've tried everything and nothing seems to work.

I use Phisoderm 3-step face cleaner.

OP here with another question:
Do I need to see my GP? A dermatologist? Or go to my GP who will refer me to a dermatologist?

The only thing I've noticed to naturally RAGE on my skin is alcohol, but I don't drink anyway.

My GP referred me to a dermatologist since he was already prescribing acne meds that didn't work

>tastes so bad
O_o
Does that make me a freak? I kind of like the taste of it. Mine's just salty most of the time though, since I sometimes have to shower twice in a day. I can compare it to how people sometimes like the smell of gasoline.

I had laser surgery.

It hurt like FUCK and was very costly, but now my acne is only very mild.

>>159876
Go to GP, he'll refer you to a dermatologist. Likely he'll prescribe antibiotics and a topical gel/cream or accutane depending on the severity of yours. I've been on accutane for about 4 months, mine was practically completely gone by month 2 but I'm going on a full course to make sure it'll be killed off once and for all. I'm 20 too by the way. I would recommend accutane over antibiotics if it's bad enough, as I've been on like 3 different types of antibiotics and they didn't really do shit.

Good luck OP.

Was on Diffferin cream for the last 35 days or so, made very little progress.
Currently on Minocycline antibiotics twice a day. Looking forward to results since this bullshit has gone on long enough and has also riddled my back.

19 here by the way.

lol this is horrible. she would be far from ugly without shit on her face i guess. but in this condition, noone would even kiss her.

as we see, acne effectively destroys your live.

I've been on Tetracylcine (2x/day), PanOxyl (night, back+chest), BenOxyl (night, face), and Duonalc Solution (morning) for about a year now.
(I started to see results in a about a month.)

I stopped taking the Tetracycline not too long ago but still use the others. I drink a lot more water now as well which helps, especially if/when I eat greasy foods.

Worked wonders. No acne and only scarring left.

Here comes a new challenger!

Dermatologist prescribed, btw

Some acne is too deep for anything topical. ANYTHING. So you need pills. Just do accutane, the side effects aren't nearly as bad as people crack them up to be.
>> Anonymous
>...the side effects aren't nearly as bad as people crack them up to be

Uh...yeah they are. Accutane can and has made some people's skin far worse than it was before they took it and not just for a short period of time.

Anyway, OP. GP -> dermatologist is the way to go

Accutane (Or roaccutane over here in Britfagland for some reason) is the best drug ever. I think it's easier to prescribe it these days as it's not as expensive due to the patent running out.

Seriously - if you have bad cystic acne (way beyond the RAAAGE inducing "Oh no! I'm so spotty! I have 3 zits!"-Clearasil ad level. I ended up having to get an earlobe removed, for fuck's sake), go to a fucking dermatologist and get some of it. You'll have to put up with cracked, bleeding lips and 3004 other annoying size effects (Also: no drinking. Also: mutant babies) for a couple of months but it'll clear you up a treat.
>> Anonymous
What are the side effects of Roaccutane? I suffered from depression a year or two ago and have an auto-immune disease, but both are under control with other medications. Could I still take it?

Eliminate all sources of caffeine from your diet (soft drinks, chocolate, energy drinks, some caffeinated gums, guarana, tea, coffee).
Will clear up in a few weeks.

I don't have acne, but rosacea. What are some good products for clearing this shit up? (it's like a red butterfly pattern on your face, looks like you're blushing all the time.)

Same here. When I was 18 I was constantly worried about making money RIGHT NOW, while simultaneously worrying about finding a girlfriend, getting in shape, getting into college, making my dad stop hating me, etc.

Generally, once I got into college and felt like I was actually progressing in life, everything else fell into place and I was pretty relaxed all the time.

But now that I'm almost OUT of college, all kinds of other worries are coming up.

Medfag here, Nag the hell out of your GP to get a referral to a Dermatologist he will try not to be arrsed. Dermatologist will try roaccutane, you will need to take a pill daily (main side effect is normally splitting of the skin at lips, use chapstick) and have blood taken monthly, Roaccutane will clear it up in weeks and permanently.

Don't get up the duff taking that wonderful stuff or the kid will be a freak. Simple Job Done.

Diet stuff 10% truth 90% bullshit, creams try one if it doesn't work none will, antibiotics are shit but they stop the GP from referring you.
