How I lost weight Anonymous
Figure I'll start a real thread here.

Over the last 8 months or so, I have lost about ~130 lbs. Here's how I did it:

Diet: Stopped eating crap foods. Started eating fresh. Mostly did a high protein/low carb diet, but unlike most low-carb dieters, I didn't pig out on burger patties and bacon. Instead, I went for low-fat protein, like chicken, fish, and tofu. For fiber, I eat flax seed (mixed with water in a paste), sauerkraut, spinach, romaine lettuce.

After I had lost about 100 lbs, I started adding more carbs to the diet. I eat a cup of blueberries (antioxidants, yay) a day. I'm slowly adding more fresh fruit to my diet.

For drinks, it's either water or tea. No sweeteners in the tea, just plain tea. Green/white teas have a lot of antioxidants in them, and are good for boosting metabolism.

Exercise: I do between 20-30 miles a day on a recumbent exercise bike. This REALLY helps build up the leg muscles, and your ass literally shrinks. I also do around 45 minutes of weight training. I wore 10lb ankle weights at work for several months, but stopped to help save my knees.

I take multivitamin pills every day, as well as potassium (helps stave off muscle cramps) and calcium (to help keep the bones healthy, since I stopped drinking milk).

I don't know if it would work for anyone else, but it's working quite well for me. Went from ~370 lbs to ~240 lbs in less than a year WITHOUT gastric bypass (I'm poor, can't afford). Still have a ways to go, but man, do I ever feel 1000% better.

I'm assuming you started w/a pretty high body fat %?

I was nearly 400lbs. I don't know what my percentage was, but it probably wasn't too good.

honey in your tea, honey has some natural benefits which help your system.
milk in your diet also helps you lost more weight than no milk. 2% or less though.

wtflux? how?

Suicide is the cheapest and easiest way to lose weight.

Don't overdo it on the milk, though. If you can go soy (I know, gay) over natural, try it.

There's a reason that no other animals in nature make a habit of consuming other species' breastmilk.

I can vouch for this, honey is a great way to add some flavor while still keeping all the benifits.

I've heard that, also that milk is better after working out than electro-lose drinks for some reason. Not nearly as impressive, but I lost about 40 lb. in about 4 months from some light cardio and very basic diet changes (no burgerz n sodaz) went from 220 to 180.

I don't mind soy products. I eat a lot of tofu already.

Do vegy burgers and hotdogs help at all?

So long as they're not too high in sodium (which they tend to be).

k so I got a membership at Bally's like 5 months ago and went for 3 of those months. I lost motivation during the last 2 due to school but now I wanna get back. How often do you think I should go to the gym but being able to maintain work and college?
>> The Judge
>>276
Absolute min 3 days a week. I'd do 4 or 5, no more than 1.5 hours.

If your school has a gym, by all means, use it. Drop Bally's like a bad habit. My town has literally one of the top gyms in the world in it, and I just work out at school, or lots of isometrics at home.

If you do it as school, it helps motivation, cause it cuts out the whole "I don't want to up and drive to the gym" thing.

1.5 a day?
Sounds good since I use to go 2 hours a day for about 3 days a week. It's easy to maintain I guess. What machines do you recommend me to use.
And did you take any vitamin and minerals to help?

the weight's still there

somebody else has to clean it up now

I never used suppliments, really. I'm not big on drastically changing my diet. I just cut out the crap and eventually dropped down to a good level.

As far as machine/routines, you need to find what works for you. Personally, I love the bike (20 min med-fast past almost every time), and those machine that work out weird parts, like the core machines. I do a lot of isotonics, too, just cause I don't want to be huge, just cut.

The way I do it is workout two days, rest one, workout two days, rest one, etc.

Repeat forever.

Your body needs a day's rest to recover, especially if you do any weight training.

How the fuck do I start, anonymous? I weigh about 320 pounds and am six feet tall. Do I start with diet first, anaerobic exercise, what? I can't run a mile a day because my knees and lungs would gain sentience and stab me for that shit, but walking the dog every day or so doesn't seem to be helping. I'm starting to cut down on shit food like burgers and pizza but am at a loss for planning my meals in such a way that I am not driven insane at night by the constant hunger.

>and your ass literally shrinks

NO THANKS

even though cycling is low bone impact, there's no other kind of exercizing that works your ass like jogging

I'm gonna try to buckle down on it this time.
I liked how dedicated I was before but shit happened. Since I still live with my family I'm gonna buy a separate mini fridge so I can't be tempted to get anything else out of it the family fridge.

True, but I didn't have room for a treadmill (the bike slides up to save space).

It's awesome to sit back, cycle, and watch TV.

A daily multivitamin should be perfectly fine. I also take creatine supplements, one pill with 20g protein before a workout and one after. Haven't noticed a drastic improvement with them (though I did notice a great improvement in flexibility and much stronger core muscles).

This fits for both, actually- don't start huge. You'll burn yourself the hell out after two days, and not want to work out for a month. I stopped working our for a while, and got caught in that cycle for a while.

Buy a pedometer (lol pedo), and see if you can't walk 10k steps a day. Make excuses to walk, too. I'd purposely park 10 minutes from class, and leave books in my car, so I'd have to walk a couple miles in the course of the day.

lol never knew this board would work so well.
Thanks for all your help, OP.
I'm going to go at it again and this time stick to the script.
