so I have this friend that's trying to set me up with his girlfriend's sister. We'll be going out later this week to have a few drinks and whatever. Basically, I’m wondering;

1. what's the best alcoholic beverage I can have in terms of maintaining my general fitness (ie, minimising the input of nasty crap into my body)

2. I'd also like to minimise my hangover the next day if it is at all possible (I’m not especially experienced with alcohol if you couldn’t already tell)

I usually have vodka + lemonade as gay as it sounds because I tend to handle vodka pretty well and wake up pretty well the next day. The lemonade helps me pace myself so that I don’t get too smashed too quick.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

that is a horrible idea. sugar + alcohol = more drunk, more hung over, more shit in your body. i don't know what you should drink though.

the ONLY thing that has worked for me as far as hangovers is to stop drinking as soon as i feel good enough and before i get sloppy and then start sipping water throughout the night (not drinking it all at once. this is key). hangovers are dehydration. i even wake up in the middle of the night to sip, and i sip as soon as i wake up. and i'm a lightweight with an extremely sensitive stomach.

keep in mind, if you get completely trashed on your first date with this girl, she's not going to think highly of you. or your second date. unless she's doing the same. in that case, she's a dirty ho.

that is not true. how much it takes to get drunk depends entirely on the individual. body weight, how often you drink, medication you might be on, etc.

OP here.

I CAN drink a fair bit. I probably start showing signs of intoxication around my 4th or so drink.

My goal isn't to get drunk but rather to drink with the group and hopefully hold my sobriety reasonably (thus my fondness of alco + no-alco mixtures).

Hell, my goal isn't really to outlast everyone. I'm just wondering what's best on the body. If it's straight vodka (which I'll be forced to mix with water) or whatever, then so be it.

girls don't give a shit about how much a guy drinks (i mean, stamina wise, not how drunk a guy is). you could probably drink water all night and she wouldn't care.. then again if you drink wine or something you might look a bit weird.

stay away from anything sweet. if youre not looking to get hammered, just have a few light beers, alcohol has 7 calories per gram compared to pure fat which is 9 calories per gram. there is roughly the same amount of alcohol in a beer, a shot, and normal glass of wine.

if your palette doesnt support beer, just get a vodka tonic or something.

theres no really healthy way to drink. (unless youre male and over the age of 45, in which case a glass of wine a day is beneficial for heart health) so dont do something retarded just because you think it might be a tad healthier. just relax, have a couple beers or a drink or two, and make sure to also order a glass of water. youre going to have to account for the extra calories no matter what you drink.

hangovers vary drastically from person to person. typically eating some food with the booze or stopping a few hours before you go to sleep and keeping yourself hydrated are a solid start to avoiding hangovers.

tldr: sweet drinks are for fags and girls, drink your drink and make up for it later at the gym.

Get some scotch or another kind of whiskey with a splash of water. This accomplishes two things: 1) Scotch/whiskey is classy, 2) the water adds nothing to the drink except to keep the strength of the liquour from being overpowering.

Don't cheap out though. Probably the lowest quality I'd go for is Jack Daniels or Johnnie Walker.

I have to say vodka has always provided me with a nice clean drunk. You don't wake up needing to pee badly the next day and there's very little calories depending on what you mix it with. Plus Russians and other dirty slavs drink it like water with seemingly no ill effect.

I wouldn't really consider Johnnie Walker in the same league as JD, JD is something you take shots of and drink with a coke. Walker is a fine scotch that you can get in single malts and for the most part the blends are of a lot higher quality. TLl;DR if you want to be drink whiskey/scotch, ask someone who knows. Check out Bushmills.
