am I doing it right? Anonymous
Hey /fit/, I took your advice and started the starting strength program. But I don't actually have a rack or bench.

So what I wound up doing was start into a deadlift, go right up into a press, then from the top of the press, did my 5 squats. Then I did that five more times. I think I did it right because my legs are killing me, but not my knees or back.

Is this a workable variation or should I be trying to do more?

If its easy enough for you to clean and press then its too light for HEAVY squatz and deadliftz. Doesn't matter really, I reccomend adding planche pushup progressions for pectorals and triceps. Also chinups.
Now what I reccomend if you wanna go semi heavy you start with your squat weight then do the badass "Steinborn lift" where you take it from a vertical postion on the floor onto your back.
Floor press if you wanna simulate bench.

you wont be able to push yourself to your limits if you still have to worry about putting the weight down _safely_

you are going to have to go to a gym.

No chinup bar either. Are curls a substitute for that? I'll look up those other exercises you mention, thanks!

Unfortunately a gym isn't in the budget (time or money) at the moment. Considering how little muscle I have at the moment, I think I'm doing a decent job pushing myself. I can barely go up and down stairs today after yesterday.

Just go to a park and do some on a monkey bar or a tree, then buy a 10 dollar one when you can.
Also you should be doing barbell rows.

Well, I've pretty much never done a pullup. Doing them is a problem because of how much I weigh versus how little strength I have.

I'll add the barbell rows to the workout though. That seems like a good way to work my way up to the pullups.

So, you were overhead squatting the bar at the end?
Looks cool to me.

Power clean , then a push press or a jerk, and then overhead squat... that's a killer workout.

It sucks that you have to do those exercises all at once.

Overhead squats, deadlift, and clean and jerk are great exercises, but not all at the same time.

Also, your form is shitty for the first part, you should look up how to do olympic lifting form

it's not
your squat will quickly get way higher than your press
