How much am I completely fucking myself up right now?
Alright, here's my basic situation in as few words as possible. I've been completely NEET for about a year, then suddenly I finally got a great job I really wanted. Problem is, all my life, and ESPECIALLY within the past year of non-working, I've had terrible sleeping problems.
I'm now working my ASS off. I'm pushing myself further than what I even think I can do by miles. There's no choice, it's what I have to do. I need this job and they're really relying on me.
But again, sleeping problems. The only way I can function right now as I am is by doing something I know I shouldn't. I've been taking sleeping pills at night and caffine pills during the day. I NEVER exceed the maximum dose, even if I don't think it's working. That is, 2 tylonal PMs at night, and 200MG of caffine in the day. Another 200MG around 4pm if I absolutely have to.
I'm hoping that over time this will force me to develop a healthy sleeping habit, but I expect it may also not work because I'll probably become intolerant to both medications before I form any long-term benefit. Also, this is probably really, really unhealthy.
What do you think? I'll keep doing it anyway, but only because I've basically lost all hope in fixing this any other way. Realize I've had bad sleeping habits for over 10 years straight now. And yes, I realize this is pathetic.

No, there's still a very slim hope things will improve. I did get a job after all.
I'm not depressed, but I am stressed out as fuck.

I'm a veteran of /x/, I am immune to such reposted pictures.
Anyway ya, I relax when I'm home, but it's impossible at work. I've been there 2 months and they're having me work like the goddamn manager already. Except I'm not even half as good as him, so I have to work harder to meet that standard that he did.
Shitsux, but I'm still just fucking glad I'm getting a paycheck.

OP here. Going to try to go to bed without sleeping meds, but if it gets late enough without sleep I'll take it. Will be back tomorrow to read thread.

1: Have some free time
2: Fuck up your already fucked up sleeping problem
3: If you stop it in time, you should be able to counter-fuck the fucked schedule, canceling each other out

Well it's been a couple hours. I laid there in the dark for a while before I tried something that sometimes works, this relaxation file thing. But I kept getting distracted by my stupid cat and the fact that I was horribly uncomfortable.
Like an hour later I couldn't stand how sore and stiff I was anymore, it's 4am, so I just took 1 of the meds.
Typical night ;_;

oh and forgot to mention I work at 10am sunday morning until about 5pm. Maybe later even.
And then I work 11-7 monday.
Then 11-4 on tuesday and wednesday. thursday off. Friday-Wednesday same basic schedule and one day off again.
So yeah, I have free time, but I can't really do jack shit with it.

Same boat as you, OP. One night in the dorms after I couldn't sleep by 5 am, I said fuck it, went out to the track, and ran 10 miles. Felt good, man.

- Before you go to bed, do a basic exercise routine that includes stretching. Do the same when you wake up. Take 5-10 minutes each time.

- Never ever lie in bed if you don't intend to sleep. You need to drill your body to go to sleep the instant your head hits the pillow. if you like reading before going to sleep, do it in a chair.

- Build a little routine that you do every night before going to bed. Like do the exercises, then go wash your face and brush your teeth. Never vary the routine. After a while the pavlovian response will make you sleepy every time you go through the motions.

Don't even try to go to sleep too early. Just stay up and get tired enough.
Meditate.
Lay off the drugs, caffeine in large doses makes you tired.

>Don't even try to go to sleep too early. Just stay up and get tired enough.
Doesn't work, end up just laying in bed awake for 8+ hours. Lights off, doing nothing.

>Meditate.
I sort of do that with the relaxation mp3 I have. Actually, it's closer to hypnotism, but the purpose and message are the same. 30 minutes of a guy telling this really REALLY boring and confusing story that works really well. It's like 50% of the time it works for me.

>Lay off the drugs, caffeine in large doses makes you tired.
Um, no. Caffine in high doses makes me awake. If it made me tired, problem solved.

i used to have sleep problems. i'm on antianxiety meds now, so that may help, but a free trick i used to do was to stay up for 20some hours and fall asleep naturally at like 8pm hopefully waking up early.

it's all about getting into a routine.

Instead of Tylenol PM, take melatonen instead. It's available at any health food store, and is the chemical your body produces to regulate sleep and wake cycles.

It's impossible to overdose on, and it's a lot better for your liver than that Tylenol crap.

I had two months off between when I graduated and when I landed my first real job (one that started at 9AM every morning), and I had fucked up my sleeping schedule something awful. Going to bed at 6AM and waking up at 1PM. Melatonin helped me get back on a regular schedule after taking it before a 'normal' bedtime.
