i lift every 2 days and run everyday.

are there any drawbacks to this? should the cycles rly be seperated? or can one reap benefits while doing both?

you should do lifting every other day instead of 2 days. also, when you do cardio, if you do it every day that is, make sure you have an hour or two between lifting and cardio.

Pretty common piece of "conventional wisdom", which is an articulate way of saying "bullshit that keeps getting repeated"

Go with what feels right to you. If you feel that you are making progress/happy with the progress you've made then your schedule is fine.

But don't be afraid to experiment with how often you work out too. Sometimes doing something like switching frequency or time of workout can help you make progress by shocking the muscles out of the routine that they're used to.

That time is for recovery, if you lifted right after you ran you would have very little energy to perform any decent lifting.

Personally, I would define a clear goal, what do you want in the gym? Muscle? Strength? Fat loss? Then set a routine for that. Running everyday seems quite catabolic for your muscles, add in a day or 2 of rest each week.
