Here's my advice for getting in shape: Stay away from the high-salts and arti-sweetners. Cut the amount of carbs you eat in half. (If you eat three sandwiches a day with 6 slices of bread, have 3 instead.) Cycling is all well and good but I can't see how you're going to get around running. Its a must in my own experience but walking/hiking ain't bad either. Oh yeah, drink water when you work out or when your thirsty.
Finally, get a Gym membership, it doesn't have to be fancy or have the bitches from the fitness mag's in 'em. Just a treadmill and some weight lifting equipment. 30 minutes of cardio to burn fat, 45 mins of weights to build muscle. (SMALL breaks in between each exercise)
