Hey /fit/

If you were ever obese/overweight, how did you motivate yourself to start working out?
>> Anonymous
1.) I have depression and working out releases endorphins
2.) I have low self-esteem and I want to improve on that
3.) I want women to be attracted to me
4.) Diabetes runs in my family, I don't want to become diabetic.
5.) It just feels better knowing that I'm improving my life

1.) I have depression and working out just reminds me of how fat I am
2.) I have low self-esteem and I realize I will always be fat
3.) I know women would never be attracted to me
4.) Diabetes runs in my family, I accepted my fate
5.) It just feels better knowing that I'm not giving in to false hope

Every week I lift my weight goes up.
Every week I don't, I see myself get weaker and flabbier.

I'm overweight. Exercise rarely. I feel happier when I exercise. You're just an emofgt/troll.

Oh boo hoo.
That is a terrible excuse.
Doesn't eating, dressing yourself, looking in the mirror also remind you of how fat you are?

Started going to the gym with friends one summer. Read about exercises, nutrition etc. casually. It didn't take immediately but one year I went from 170 to 190 pounds, didn't like the way I was starting to look, and already had the groundwork knowledge laid down, so it was easy to stick to the proper routines.

did you enjoy losing a huge ammount of your weight from lean mass? 25% weight loss from muscle. its even in the commericals that way.

my friend was 300 pounds in early senior year. he started lifting weights at a gym about 3 times a week in December that year. he's about to go into his sophomore year of college weighing 180lbs... give or take 10 pounds.

i occasionally get pussy, so it was worth it i think? honestly though, i am kinda flabby, i started working out like 3 months ago, mainly cardio, working my ass off trying to get abs, burn about 500 cals per day cardio, plus that twisty ab machine thingy for like 5 sets of 20, i better have abs by the summer

>>101271
since you're calling it a "twisty ab machine thingy" you won't have abs. plus, working your abs won't give you abs. having low body fat will give you abs. and things like deadlifts and squats will give you bigger abs faster then sit ups or crunches or whatever other ab specific shit you're doing.

i have a hard time maintaining muscle (not taking any supplements currently) because (at least i think this is the reason) i do a significant amount of cardio. i have to run a 5k race in june for charity, so ive been hitting the treadmill and eliptical hard. i kinda look skinny as it is though, and want to maintain a relatively small frame, squats wont kill me in that aspect and give me massive calves?

yeah. actually if you do even one set of squats regardless of the weight used you'll wake up like ronnie coleman (pictured)
>> Anonymous
>5 sets of 20

do 10 of 110. you dont gain mass by doing alot of Wimpy weights, you gain it much faster by doing the max of what your body can do 10 times. ALWAYS bump the weight by 5 every week.

oh fuck i meant 10 reps not sets.

I motivated myself thinking about a girl I liked. That's not healthy thinking, but it worked.

I wasn't crazy about the girl either. I just thought that hey, if I'm not fat anymore maybe she'll like me. That gave me some additional strength I guess.

yeah it's funny people say they want muscle, but not too much muscle. like you could become too muscular by accident.....

Martial Arts. I didn't want my fat ass to be kicked, so I worked it off.
