your supposed to land on the balls of your feet gently. again your not sposed to start off with 100 pounds or anything like that, you slowly add on the weight. Lemme find the article and ill type it here

Works very well. I'm probably going to start up doing those again, as my vertical leap has plummeted over the past year and a half.

fucking DDR will do it.

i can jump like a damn flea now.

I heard these work.

Shouldn't squats also work well for that purpose?
>> Anonymous
>>16961
ehhh not to the same extent.

if you train your muscles for slow strength, they will be strong but slow, usually what free weights are for. but if you want short, fast bursts of power, resistence is the way to go.

>>16965
basically, if you want to jump higher, you need to find something that makes it harder to jump, then use it to jump.

same goes for anything.

Simply put, if you want to get better at jumping high, you need to work jumping into your exercise. A big vertical leap requires a lot of explosive, quick power, and it's something that typical lifting exercises can't always duplicate.

Jump shoes are the biggest Goddamn waste of money.

The average, untrained Anonymous can build up his vertical simply by improving strength in his posterior chain. Work squats, deadlifts and similar movements. Focus on strength, keep reps low.

Read up on "rate of force development". Read everything Charlie Francis ever wrote. Louie Simmons is also a good source of information.

Looking good is child's play compared to trying to improve specific forms of performance. Have fun.

Agreed.

Be sure the squats are ass-to-ankles; snatches and cleans are good too, though you'll probably need coaching to learn how to do them right.

jump up onto a wooden box or bench from ground. land on it, don't goddamn miss. jump back don't, don't slide your tiring fat ass back down falling. repeat 20x. do 3 sets, reducing reps to 15 if you have to. when you can handle it, hold dumbbells

make sure knees always bent to avoid injury. make sure heels always contact all surfaces to avoid injury also. don't pause up at the top, that's the key.

careful with plyometrics. for optimal results you should only do them x times per year, and it's not many. this is something the russians discovered; they start detraining faster than other activities.
>> Anonymous

my trainer only had me do this occasionally, like in a whole half-year, maybe 8 times. this is working out out once or twice a week.

Get a trampoline, OP.

yeah, that sounds about right.

You can use your stairs and jump from a squatting position over as many steps as you can manage. Repeat this process over and over. My karate sensei used to have to do this in the 70's in his original dojo. At one point he could clear 7 average steps in a single leap without screwing up.

lolwut

you don't use your hamstrings in vertical jump, you use your calves and quads

do parkour with a weighted vest + leg weights.

if you dont know what parkour is, just run aruond climbing trees + jumping around buildings n stuff.

Stop spreading your trash. There's a reason why Olympic weightlifters have some of the highest vertical jumps in the world.

That'll just fuck up your joints. Parkour is strenuous enough without additional weight, not to mention that ankle weights (or even a vest) would be sliding all over the place while doing precisions, vaults, climb-ups, etc.
