Hey, /fit/... I have a problem and need some advice. It seems as if I can never fully focus on things, and it's gotten to the point where I really feel the need to finally do something about it. Now, this isn't just a recent thing... but it has been bothering me for quite some time. Back when I was in school, it was also hard for me at times to pay attention to certain things and remember certain details. I never thought too much of it, though, because when I DID pay attention I would do just fine. That is mainly the reason why I never mentioned it to anyone else or seeked help for it. However, it seems to be effecting everything I do these days. When I read, play video games, watch movies, listen to music, and other things along those lines, it seems like I can't pay attention for very long without moving on to something else. You can't even imagine how many video games I have stacked up which have only been played halfway through. I seem to simply loose internet in it and move on to other things. Another example is when I listen to music (which I love) and try so hard to focus on it and feel the emotion of a given song, but nothing ever comes out of it. Keep in mind that there ARE times when I am actually completely zoned-in on something, but those times are very few and far between. I'm sure most people will think it's ADHD or something along those lines, but I'm wondering if there is any other explanation or "cure" for this.

So, tl;dr, it is difficult for me to focus on things for very long (music, games, etc. . .) and I'm wondering if there are certain medications (preferably OTC's) which can help. Maybe some of those so-called "brain-foods" I read so much about can help boost my brain activity?

This is me too, though I'm off medication now after 10 years. I am filled with regret that I didn't do it sooner, because my overall physical and mental health improved 200% and I feel like I could have achieved a lot more during my formative years with just some patient guidance. When teachers don't know how to teach, they suggest medication.

Oh, I know it's not a med... but I was trying to state how I prefer natural remedies and/or OTC meds rather than prescriptions. Sorry about that.

Oh right, my bad, just re-read it.

That's alright, I really didn't word it correctly. So should I specifically get cod liver oil, or would it be alright if it just says "fish oil" on it or "Omega 3" on it? I'm just trying to see my options if for some reason I can't find the cod liver oil tomorrow when I go looking for it.

Before you do that, you should look up the most reputable companies are, and don't buy the cheapest kind you can find.

I always try to read up on things before trying them, so that's fine. I haven't found one particular brand which seems to stand out from the others yet, but I will continue to look through them.

It's hard to focus on things that are boring.

Since no one has mentioned this yet, I figure I'll point it out (although I'm sure you probably know)- cereal, beef jerky and dinner isn't exactly a healthy diet. Obviously there's some variables there, as I don't know if you're talking captain crunch and fatty prime rib, or kashi and skinless chicken, but I still think there's probably some room for improvement in your diet.

Just 'cause it doesn't make you fat doesn't mean it's good for you!

OP here (yes... I'm still up), and I know that my food intake is something I should work on. I've always been careful as to what I eat, though, and then I have that whole "I'm fat" complex going on... so it's hard to know what I should actually have. I'm sure that is at least partially responsible for me not being able to concentrate on things, though.

Oh... and for the record, cereal for me would be Honey Bunches of Oats, Life, Special K, etc... (obviously not all at once), and beef jerky is pretty much any basic beef jerky snack (you know, the one you chew on and whatnot).

Well, I'm finally going to bed... but I want to take the time out and thank everyone who went out of their way to help me and those of you who made some great suggestions. I plan on looking for some stuff later on today (cod liver oil, Clif bars, etc. . .), and also plan to work on some things (my diet). Feel free to keep suggesting things, though, and hopefully this thread will somehow still be here when I wake up in a few hours.
