I'm trying to drop a bit of weight, and I've actually lost about 10 pounds over the past few weeks.

But, my question is this:

The method I've been using (aside from doing some cardio every other day) is that I only eat when my stomach physically growls at me. I don't think I've been starving myself, but when I look at what I eat during the course of a day, it doesn't seem like a whole lot. Today, for example, I had a toasted bagel for breakfast, turkey sandwich for lunch, and three eggs scrambled for dinner.

Is this an acceptable way to lose weight? I don't want to lose much muscle in the process.

no, its not, you need to keep it around a certain amount of calories. Lots of site online will tell you how much you should eat. Eating too little will make your metabolism slow down because your body will be trying to save energy. You will also lose muscle. Eat a healthy diet with lots of lean meat, fruits, veggies, and whole grains. Check out some fitness website to find the calculator for your BMR

Lets put it this way, your body feeds on the stored energy in your fat cells when you exercise. Thats what burns all that fat. Well your body won't eat all its fat, it will stop at a certain point, because you need fat to survive. So guess what it eats then? MUSCLE

Also, by not keeping your body in metabolism, it will think its in shock, and will store all the fat it can from your food, instead of turning it into energy stored to be used right away.

So by eating improperly, you will actually gain fat, and lose muscle.

If you have a small enough digital camera it becomes really easy. Just snap a picture of everything you eat, end of the day look at all the pictures and it's EASY AS PIE to tally it all up.

You see, that's the start. Nobody said we're better than you because you're fat and we're not, but we do have more experience than you do when it comes to losing that fat and maintaining a lean body.

The fact is, if you eat whatever you like every three hours, and you eat like shit you're not going to lose any weight. Counting calories really isn't the painstaking chore you're making it out to be, find out your basal metabolic rate and eat 500 under that for weight loss. it's not that hard. You need to leave your comfort zone sometime.

You do basic math "so the average plate of spaghetti has 500 calories, this meal needs to be 560 calories, thats fairly close with a glass of milk to drink"

I have no issues with women. I'm trying to get back in running shape to play lacrosse this spring. I'm a big guy, I play defense, 20 pounds isn't a lot on my frame.

Well you see... first there's this learning period where you become familiar with what foods have what calories. That's where you are actually logging each food. Plus it gives you perspective on how big of a change you are going to need to make. After this you just sort of wing it.

Not narcissistic here, just telling you how it is. As an "athlete" you should know the effects of a good diet and training regimen. Its even worse that your an athlete, and saying things like men don't count calories. Athletes more than anyone know the benefit and reasons behind counting calories/protein/carb/fats/etc etc intake.

Your going to fall behind, be slower, and less healthy then your teammates who do count calories, and give a shit about what they put in their bodies.
