So /fit/ I am sick of spending upwards of an hour at the gym on the various cardio machines. This concept of HIIT intrigues me.

So, a 15 minute quality session of HIIT should have a similar if not stronger effect than about an hour of normal cardio? I am already rather fit, I am mostly looking to remove some last stubborn pounds before I am super-fit. Also, would it be possible for HIIT to work on a bicycle, for a do hate running.

Thank you gentlemen, picture is random.

I find running boring. I prefer the speed of a bike, or the option to close my eyes on a stationary machine.

That is why I asked, I was not confident this was true. Please enlighten me as to the truth.

I'm by no means an expert, but you can certainly do HIIT on a bike.

I prefer the elliptical to the stationary bike, but it should be doable.

retard

http://www.hotbodytraining.com/extreme-fat-loss-the-tabata-method/

5 min warm up

7-8 reps of 20sec hard as you can 10 sec rest

5 min cool down

15 mins

better than jogging 70% for 60 mins

HIIT rawks, i prefer bike the most.

things like tabata intervals are possible on a bike, but its not waht it was made for. do frontsquats or thrusters. and believe me, you will want to run instead of tabatas next time

bullshit original study was done using bikes.

you want to tell me a bike is as taxing as a compund movement? the studies by tabata incorporated bikes, but why not go a step further?

Oh wow, notice I said "speed of bike". You know, going fast... outdoors. Still, fine trolling job, I responded with rage.

To those who are helping, thank you.

Is this something I could knock out on a exercise bike so I could incorporate it into my gym visits? I am cool with doing it on a real bike, in fact I think it would be fun. Problem is the area I live in his hilly, it would be hard to structure a HIIT session with inclines and declines serving as confounding variables.

HOLY SHIT I KNOW THAT KID. HIS NAME IS MICHAEL BINGHAM AND HE LIVES IN WIMBERLEY, TEXAS.

The acceleration issue that comes with a real bike means if you start timing your high interval when you start TRYING to be at max speed, by the time you get up to a speed that is maxing you out, half or more of your interval may be wasted. If you are going to do HIIT on a bike, stationary is better as you can just up and KICK IT very rapidly as needed.

figures. looks like every texan i've ever met.

Hm, in my experience with stationary bikes, they seem to let up on the resistance a lot when I start pumping my legs to the max. Once I work up the speed I am just coasting a long, I don't feel as if I am working hard, I feel like I spinning my legs in the air.

Is this just the type of bike I have used, or is there some technique I am missing?

Huge thanks.

HAHA IF YOU KNOW WIMBERLEY THEN YOU MIGHT KNOW LANE SCHWAGER?!?

Just speeding up will feel that way. You absolutely need to crank up the resistance as you kick up the speed, aim for a cadence of 90-100 RPM with the resistance set so you can just barely manage it. After a few intervals you should know what resistance to go to so you can jump to it right quick.

Aha, thank you for the advice. And the pic.
