Hey /fit/, I get into shape fairly easily when I workout, but I'm kind of a lazy slob who generally doesn't have the time. But I've wanted to get into better shape, so I've been buying lots of equipment, and looking up different exercise plans. What I've got as far as equipment is:

100lbs heavy bag, exercise bike (weighted wheel), weight vest, jump rope, and a set of the Bowflex 1090 dumbells (which as the name implies go from 10 to 90 pounds each.)

Just got the dumbelles. Looking through the manual that came with it, I see a "6 week challenge" which is strange, because I thought it took three months, but whatever. I plan to keep working out past the included program anyway.

However, looking at the plan, there's an included diet plan. Which I mean, I could do, but... do I have to? How badly would it alter the results if I stuck to my current eating plan?

Also, it doesn't really say at what weight I should start out with. How do I know what to start out with, and when to increase it?

Bowflex merchandise is marketed at the "GET RIPPED TOMORROW" crowd. The manual is full of lies.

instead of buying a bunch of overpriced bullshit,

buy an olympic barbell and some heavy ass weights AND GET READY TO SQUAT.

I just wanted to know if not changing my diet would sabotage my results, and how to know how much weight I should start with. D;

START WITH OVER 9000 KILOGRAMS

60% of the result in body building comes from the diet, 30% from exercise, 10% from genetics.

Well, what do you eat now? If it's a bunch of fatty, processed shit then you won't be getting ripped unless you have a very high metabolism.

If I'm by myself, what I buy is generally reasonably healthy. I mean, I'll get some junk food, but I can really only stomach it in very small amounts.

I eat a lot of meat. Fish, beef, chicken, turkey. Some ham. Some frozen meals. Fast food a couple meals a week, on average -which could be anything from Subway to Jack in the Box. I drink a lot of home made fruit smoothies, often for breakfast. Sometimes cereal, which can range from something like wheat thins to something like corn pops. I eat a lot of fruits, some veggies, lots of spinach. I don't eat salads often, but I'm wanting to eat them more and more often. As far as liquid, occasional orange juice, some milk, two bottles of water a day on average, and lots and lots of gatorade. I don't drink alcohol, do drugs, or smoke at all, and I love soda, but I generally only drink it at barbecues or if I'm eating out somewhere. I like to keep up my metabolism with occasional small snacks throughout the day, which can range from a granola bar, to a grannie smith apple or banana, to a stick of beef jerky.

However, if for example I'm having a movie night with friends, then we kind of make a point to pig out, with pizza, nachos, and whatever we find at the nearest gas station.
