People that do half ass of anything. Example: Benching but not even going half way down. People that squat but don't even get close to parallel.
People that curl at the squat rack when there are numerous other places to curl.
People that come in and work out their arms almost every day. Then flex in the mirror all the time without realizing that their arms are bigger than their legs.
People that don't rack the weights when they are done using them.
Trainers that think they know everything.
Trainers that don't even know how to squat, clean, snatch, deadlift, or teach.
People on steroids that have large muscles, but have half the strength as me.

i agree with everything on your list, but fucking cellphones and jewelry piss me off to the max.

I am fucking mean to people that are hogging an area that I want to use because they are obliviously yappin away on their phone.

If a dude is just resting on a bench, i will ask if hes using it/how many more sets he has left. But if he is on the phone, i will just tell him to move out of the way...and when they look at me with a dazed expression, I tell them to take their fucking weights with them...as if *I* was going to rack them for them.

Fucking people. Someday, Ill have my own setup at home so I dont have to deal with idiots.

Today there was a guy came in and did bench press without his shirt on. Then spent the rest of the day shirtless.

There is one guy who gets on the elliptical and goes FULL FORCE, pounding away. Ellipticals are not meant to work that way. He's going to break it. Your foot shouldn't come off the pedal and you shouldn't be doing more than about 175 rpm, if that. If you want to sprint, get on the treadmill. I want to hit his face.

It is so loud it disrupts everyone.

AT my gym there are soooooo many OLD people, that go in groups, and chat for SOO fucking long, and when they finally start training, they do the stop and start shit or whatever... lift it ONCE... wait 1 min, lift it ONCE... wait a min... repeat for 90 fucking min

either that... or the old people when they are waiting RIGHT infront of me while im training at my station, staring at me, sometimes even asking me "Are you done yet" WHILE im in the middle of a lift? i mean wtf? stick to going sunday strolls with you dog, dont get me wrong, dont mind old people excersizing, hell ill be doing it when im 80=P just as long as they dont do it like morons

i'll agree with this list, and add the following:

People who wear jeans and work boots while they lift (always bench and curls) not even black guys.

theres also this chubby guy who does some power lifting who screams RIDICULOUSLY loud, but its seriously deafening from across the room. top of his lungs just yelling, sometimes even before he lifts a weight. he's not even lifting that much, 315 deadlifts & 275 squats.

To counter that, I was lifting yesterday and was grunting quite a bit. When I finished, a guy asked me why I didn't just scream. I said because I wasn't maxing out and screaming wouldn't have been appropriate.

"But that's 700 lbs on the press...you're allowed SOME freedom."

Me - "Yeah...but that's my rep set, not my max. I'd be a pussy if I yelled just for that."

He walked away with his head down a bit. Poor guy. Gold's isn't a power gym, so I don't scream. But I DO laugh at those that scream for 175 bench lifts and 225 squats. It's not a lot really.

-Guys who pose in the mirror while trying to look like they're not actually posing.

I do this. I mean I don't drop it when I'm curling or anything so it's not a "full drop." I do some endurance work for my forearms and I drop it while kneeling at a bench about 1 1/2'-2' high. Still bad? If it really bothers people, I'll tell my partner to catch the weight.

Its just really none of your business, to be honest. You don't know if the trainer had told the person to do that a million times, or if he was going to. It's just a generally bad thing to do. You don't tell a "professional" how to do their job, IN their place of work. It makes you look like an asshole whether you meant well or not.
>> Anonymous
I used to be one of the people in charge of a gym and my biggest pet peeve is when people drop dumbbells. A few inches, whatever; I'm talking about the guys who drop them from the top of a rep (chest press, curl, etc) or even go so far as to throw them down 'with authority'. We had a jackass throw a dumbbell down so hard that the ceiling on the squash court beneath it partially collapsed. It was not cheap to repair, and the entire weight room was shut down for 3 days to fix it. I banned his ass. It's bad enough that dumbbells get all bent out of shape and sometimes actually break, but destroying the floor/ceiling? Come on.

My second biggest pet peeve would have to be when people don't put dumbbells back. Sure, the dumbbell racks get messy and sometimes it would be a pain to put them back in the exact spot meant for them 'cause you'd have to move like 4 sets of dumbbells, but don't just leave them hidden in some corner of the gym. Nobody wants to waste time scouring the entire fucking gym looking behind every bench and machine for a missing dumbbell.

I will point out that I could care less what other people wear to the gym, or if they want to waste time, or whatever. As long as they don't waste my time or someone else's time, or distract anybody with their idiocy, it makes no difference to me. If I think someone's a poseur, sure it will fuel my anger and drive me to workout harder. But that is a good thing.

>>41773
dude personal trainers are NOT professionals. They've gone through ~semester of a class, spend a couple hundred on certs. They have a minimal knowledge of lifting and diet, just enough to get by.

There are a few actual pros out there, but I can guaranfuckintee that they're not at the university gym. They're at the gold's in oakland, or the 24 hr. fitness down the street.

anyways, wrong form is wrong form. Asking the person to get hurt is, if anything, bad business and i was doing them a favor. Blowing up at me for making a simple comment for trying to save someone from lasting damage is unprofessional.

I'd rather be an asshole than see someone get hurt because their personal trainer they hired for the first day at the gym, just to show them the ropes, doesn't know what they're doing.

There is a fat bull dyke who I've seen taking weights off other peoples machines if she thinks they are taking too long.
The bitch goes stupid nuts.

In general its the groups of 3 people who chain use a bench for an hour. Set, break, talk talk talk, set...
>> Anonymous
>>41813
We have a group of 3 or 4 guys who will stand around for like 2 hours and not really work out. They just talk.

I was using the weighted ab machine, and I would do a set of 20, then get off and do push ups in front of it, set of 20. Then get back on the ab machine. I'm all alone in the little corner, working at a good pace, maybe 30 seconds between abs and pushups, 45 seconds between pushups and abs.

There is this old woman, who I loathe, who can clearly see me doing my routine. I'm not taking that long and I'm only planning on doing 4 sets, and I've already done 2. She comes over, changes the weight on the ab machine, wipes it down, sits down, does like 10 and then just walks away, without saying a word.

She knew I was using the machine. If she would have asked if I was done I would have told her she could use it. If she wanted to work in, I would have said yes. But just getting on the machine without saying anything? Biotch.

I also hate fatties that have been going to the gym for over a year and are still fat. Or guys who have been lifting the same weight for a year. There are a lot of people at my gym who aren't improving. I just look at that like a waste of time. One guy is xbox hueg fat, like 350. I see him there like 5 days a week for a year. No visible change. In a year you could drop over 100lbs with just a sensible diet and moderate exercise. It just boggles my mind that he's paying like $30 a month to do work out, and then must be fucking up on his diet because he doesnt look like he's lost a pound.

Someone else said something about "people who don't improve", which prompted me to respond.

It does annoy me when people don't improve, but why should I give a fuck? As long as they don't interfere with anyone else, who cares? I just realized that it annoys me because I am in the gym to improve myself. I don't want to be surrounded by people who don't improve. I want to be motivated. (Well, I am motivated, but I want to be even more motivated.) So now this is pet peeve number 3 for me.

And speaking of XBOX-fat people, there was a guy in the gym about 2 weeks ago. Big roly-poly blubbery dude. He was lying in the middle of the floor such that it was an inconvenience to walk around a lot of extra equipment just to go from point A to point B. I saw him try to sit up once. I don't know what the fuck he was doing besides breathing laboriously, probably because all of the fat on his chest was crushing his rib cage. I mean, I must've completed about 15 sets in 25 minutes, and during that time I only saw him do one sit-up. (Of course he couldn't do sit-ups, but he reached forward in such a manner that his abs must've contracted.) After that day I never saw him again, which is good because he was a fucking road block.

Trainers aren't professionals you dolt. All they have to do is go through a one month class to get a CERTIFICATION TO TRAIN PEOPLE. They don't teach people how to train for size or power. In the one month certification process they teach basics of safety, cardio, toning, abs, and endurance training.
Trainers at the the GYM I go to constantly ask for my opinion on how to do certain lifts like snatches and cleans. Out of the 30 trainers at the L.A. Fitness in the Marina 3 are stronger than me, and only 2 know how to clean and snatch properly because one of them played football, and the other used to compete in lifting years ago.

Do your workout, don't try and be a fitness evangelist. That is probably THE most obnoxious thing in the world. If these losers wanna waste their time, let them waste it. And Ronnie Coleman is just about the only body builder that does over 2000 on the leg press for sets of 10.
>> Anonymous
>>41987
so i'm sure that since it's at like a 45 degree angle that doesn't mean anything. O no. It doesn't mean that you're only pushing the weight half the distance, and because of the track you're only pushing half the weight up. ie sin 45, cos 45, with respective forces and distances.

LOL

It's true. There's this other fat fuck (fellow fat fuck here) that stacks on 1120 lbs. I spotted him last Friday. He does have shitty form (half-rep), but still...getting 1120 off the latch still takes strength. He's not getting the full benefit, but it's still a workout.

Again, the leg press isn't as hard as a full squat. Stabilizers aren't utilized completely and it only targets a certain muscle group (quads and glutes).
>> Anonymous
Fatties pounding down Lucozade while walking for five minutes on a treadmill and then doing about 30 half-arsed reps on some leg machines with no weights pinned.

Guys doing lots of arm exercises with bad form. Wow, great workout there, slugger, flinging the weights up like that.

>>42016
This whole bad form thing... Hopefully in the future technology allows small screens showing proper form for exercises, in their designated area. This is possible now, but like hell if any gyms would do it.
>> Anonymous
>>41997
Guess you don't know nothin bout some Jay Cutler. Ronnie is not god. And I never said for sets of 10, either. Just one time of 2300 would have counted in the way I constructed my sentence. But I'm sure Marius P. could do 10, or more, as his focus is strength, not just shape.

Also, 900lbs on the leg press is 900lbs. There is no formula. You're pushing 900lbs on a 45 degree incline, period. Friction actually counts for it, so you could call it 902, and dont forget the sled adding weight. But friction is minor, and the machine should be smooth and lubed. No arguing that its straight up 900lbs, though.

>>41999
Maybe exercise your brain, you illiterate twat. I said that moving through different planes can be easier. Though you're obviously retarded, as the distance is not shorter at all. What does it matter if your legs are going up, or down, or at an angle, as long as they go from compressed to extended? Exactly the same range. Doesnt matter the angle.

What does come into play, that makes a 45degree angle easier, is the force of gravity. Gravity is straight down, so the force of gravity is not also being applied directly through your legs. If the leg press were 90 degrees, IE, straight over your fucking head, yes, it would be harder than doing it on an incline. They used to make those, but now they're hard to find because they're far more dangerous.

Anyone else want to step up and get knocked down?

>If the leg press were...because they're far more dangerous.

Issue is pointless to argue because people should know that the leg press is just a substitute for building leg stregnth and not as a power squat. They're two seperate exercises. One just helps build up for the other.
>> Captain Fitness formerly Yoshi ? !ozOtJW9BFA
>>42020
Explain why people don't squat 200 lbs also?

Chest press machine: People can do alot more weight on that than they can on a bench press.

The leg press might have x amount of weight but you don't have to use as much fore to move it as your would have to move half that amount of weight when squatting.

Jay Cutler isn't known for being that strong, he's known for using strict form.

I've never heard anyone complain about my pet peeve in my gym. It's a small gym in an apartment with a couple of ellipticals, a couple of treadmills, a squat rack, a bench press thing (with incline/decline), a bench, a wide range of dumbbells, and one of those multi-station machines.
One of the things that I see nearly everybody who benches do is instead of using the bench thing to bench press they take the plain bench, put it under the squat rack, and do benches under that. It's doesn't get in my way since people have always let me use the squat rack to SQUAT and just move to the bench thing, but I honestly have no fucking idea why they do that. Our bench thing is pretty nice too, it's pretty adjustable and has a lot of grooves and is about a meter and a half away, but instead they use the less convenient, less comfortable alternative.

But no, not these fuckers, afterall, we all enjoy the smell of our own cologne, but c'mon...I'm already breathing hard and I get choked up if I smell something really fuckin bad.

This mother fucker shit bombed me when I was in my last set of SQUATZ and I nearly fuckin passed out from it. The asshole walked right by me and with him came the wind of Mordor. Jesus Ballsack Christ, the worst part was I could sorta make out the pizza hut he had for lunch amidst the rank of his ass cheese.

Other then that, hats/beanies = faggots.

I am an entry level type gym goer, and I do things like silently fart into people's areas as they're working

IT'S A FUCKING GYM! It's NOT a god damn lounge to relax in. If you're not sweating, you're not working!
>> Guil
>>42296
But.. I don't sweat..
I just am not a sweater, the only place that even gets my shirt damp is the armpits. But you will NEVER see a bead of sweat on my face or arms or anything.

I think I have a problem, but have never told a doctor.
I think I will when I go next time.. I also notice I get really heated up when trying to sleep. Mebbe my body is too stupid to get rid of heat properly. I drink 2.8L a day so I know I have enough water
>> Rochambeau !Eu5BrP0pAY
>>42307
Well I didn't mean it seriously...or maybe I did? Either way, people are going to sweat at the gym.

Leg press and squat are two different exercises. You were saying that 900lbs on leg press isn't really 900lbs. Yes it is. Its not the same as squatting 900lbs, obviously. I never said anything like that.

As for chest machine, people are actually 10% weaker on a machine than when using free weights. They just think they're stronger on the machine because they forget the bar weighs 45lbs. Though yes, the machine is generally easier, as it locks in the plane of motion. It doesnt recruit the same supporting muscles.

Dont take anything away from the leg press just because its not the squat. Squats are harder, yeah, you dont have any support other than your legs and gravity is making you work harder.

Jay Cutler Repping 810lbs on leg press no problem: http://youtube.com/watch?v=BUZcf5AHTnQ

>>42171
Well they should have expressed like you did. A 900lb leg press isn't a 900lb stand there with 900lbs on your shoulder. = )

Women who use crappy little 1-2lb weights and think they're accomplishing something.
Women who come to the gym, covered in make-up and jewelry and no shit amounts of work, they just walk around with water-bottles, towels and look at the machines and "try them out" for about 3-4 minutes and then get off.
Fatties who come in, go on the treadmill for a few minutes, then go and immediately get a candy-bar/bag of chips and a gatorade from the vending machines.
People who believe in spot-reduction and then quit and throw hissy fits when it's not working.
Gym bunnies (see number #2) who cut in front of me, run around the gym in short-shorts and steal the machines I want to use (that they have no clue to use) in order to workout in front of anyone of male gender- making a massive scene in order to impress the "hot guys" (God, I hope they are smarter than that).
People who know a crapload of workout information/nutrition information but are obsese themselves.
Women who take up the treadmills by walking at a very slow pace (2.0 or less) and reading a book - the GYM IS NOT A LIBRARY, GTFO.
Sweaters who fucking shower me with their sweat while I'm on a machine thats next to them.
People who go to the gym to socialize, and maybe walk a mile on the treadmill at a slow pace (while watching TV and talking with several of their friends who are also hogging the machines)

I wouldn't have a problem with that. They may have become obese, then did the research so they know what the fuck they're doing to fix it. There's nothing wrong with a work in progress.

I agree with the other points though. People who aren't at a gym to use it as a gym should just gtfo.

The 900 x 5 on the leg press was impressive...but the 720 x 5 hack squat made my jaw drop. His form didn't even buckle.

What's wrong with "low weight, high reps"?

....

Cutler definitely works hard and smart and thats how he became Mr. O.

Muscle and Fitness had a good article about him awhile back, and there was video of his leg workout. some of it was like the youtube stuff, but he did a lot more, and went outside and did weighted lunges (like 145lbs on his back) for like 30 yards, then back.

Unless your only goal is to look big and muscular then low weight high rep is pretty useless as far as training goes.
>> Anonymous
>>42420
it doesn't stimulate muscular hypertrophy. ie doesn't break down your muscle fibras. ie doesn't build muscle. ie doesn't work
>> Anonymous
>>42420
it does build stamina though.

Eh, those aren't full reps and he's using his elbows/arms as springs and stoppers.

Correct form and range of motion are better then max weight. Uncoincidentally, doing the exercise right will let you do more weight later.
