Sup /fit/, I lift weights and I was wondering why a 3 or 4 day split would be any better than lifting 6 days a week, especially if I do a routine like:

Monday - Legs
Tuesday - Chest/Abs
Wednesday - Back/forearms
Thursday - Shoulders
Friday - Legs/ HIIT
Sat - Triceps/Biceps
Sunday - Rest

The muscles have lots of time to recover, and my workouts are usually one hour long. Good?

Theres no massive difference betwen working each body part over a week and getting it all into 3 days for example, but i just dont know why youd choose that. I much prefer my routine of 3 days on, 2 days off, unless your limited by time each day or something id recommend trying to comapct that routine a bit. Its true to say that a more intense, compact routine stresses the body out more and then that leads to more muscle growth, but as i say, the difference isnt great.

How long have you been lifting? I'd say that if you have to still ask questions about recovery times and splits like this, then you should probably still be doing a full body routine.

Its nice to change your routine aver 3 months or so anyhow..

give the 3 day split a try for a few months, there are many variations of it, I'm sure you will find a few that fit your schedule.

I just started (2 weeks ago) a 3 day/week full body workout, and I like it so far. Chad Waterbury has alot of variations of full body workouts. I was doing a 5 day split before this.
mon-shoulders
tue- back
wed-chest
thurs-legs
fri- arms.

that 5 day split was starting to get extremely boring after a little over a year doing it. the hardest part if changing up the program was convincing my workout partner to do it also.

I like the 3 day full body workout. and its a nice change of pace.
