today, after a long wait, I start my first day of squats.
It took hours going through a storage unit, to find the squat rack I have, which belonged to my father, been practicing my form, so I think I'm good with that, now it's time for the real thing.
What should I expect? How should I be feeling after the first week?

Speaks the truth. I have become addicted to them. I want to lift every day. I will work out to the point of seeing stars and wanting to throw up, leave the gym and an hour later I want more. That hunger you have right after eating Chinese? That is what it will be like.

and yet, I want to do more squats, because doing squats made the pain go away.

You should be expecting to feel sore for the first week, and possibly into the second week. Don't let it stop you though, pussying out due to DOMS will only make the soreness last longer.

When I passed 1.5x bodyweight it just got me more addicted. Now I'm close to squatting 2x bodyweight, and every minute I'm not at the gym I am mentally preparing myself for the task.
