hey /fit/,

I recently took up jogging to boost my cardiovascular system, but starting 6 days ago, the area above my ankle where the foot meets the leg starts hurting about 1.5 miles into the run.

Should I stop jogging or just man up and ignore the pain?

bad pain is always a signal to stop.
Do you have good running shoes?

sounds like shin splints to me.

my shoes are built for normal, everyday use rather than running

well, get yourself some good running shoes, lest you wanna ruin your feet and knees.

oh lol shin splints fucking suck. no way to get rid of them really and stairs are a nightmare.
take ibuprofen (or any anti-inflammatory analgesic) when it's bad and rest - you can't 'run off' shin splints'. all you can do really.

That might be half of your problem. Your form might be lacking too, or you might just be somewhat 'predisposed' to this kind of stuff.
For now I'd say don't overdo it, buy a decent pair of running shoes and see if it gets any better.

Gotta start slow. Give your legs time to heal inbetween runs. Jog every few days at first. Don't run too long if you're body can't take it yet, which it obviously can't. If you start slow, eventually you'll be able to go farther, faster and without any injuries.

And yeah good running shoes blah blah
