What exercises can you recommend for a guy with a heart condition?

I got a gut from being lazy. I've tried running, but due to my condition, my heart doesn't slow down like a normal persons, ie: it stays as if I were running for several hours and it really sucks. I want to lose weight but without good cardio I'm kinda stuck.

Any advice for non cardio weightloss/general exercise?

How about you kill yourself?

Shit, I have the exact same thing. Or something similar -- I have mitral valve prolapse, and somehow that makes me more sensitive to adrenaline and caffeine. So if I do any kind of hard exercise, I have heart palpitations for a few hours, and it pretty much blows.

It sucks because I'm female, so I'm probably going to start layering on the fat any day now and not be able to get rid of it.

tl;dr: Me too, OP. If anyone has any suggestions, I'd bear you many strong sons.

OP here:

Yea, it's pretty much the same thing. Shit sux. Is there any way to work our hearts without death?

Without knowledge of your condition (god that must suck), my only advice for the OP and the above poster is to ask your doctor about the dangers of exercise with your condition.

If it's just uncomfortable, but still safe, then it basically comes down to how much you want it. Do you want to be healthy bad enough to endure the extra pain? It sucks but aerobic exercise is the only way to stay in shape.

OP here:

I wish it were just pain. It's more of a "OMG is my heart going to STOP? AM I GOING TO DIE TODAY!? OH GOD!"

I'd totally power thru if it were something you could power thru

I know there are supplements (is that what you'd call them?) you can take that will help you shed fat...Like Hydroxycut Hardcore and the like; mainly to shed water weight and get that cut look around their muscles..

I've never used them, as I have the opposite problem (can't GAIN weight..) but you may want to look into them..

How healthy do you eat? A change in diet can do wonders.

Don't take Hydroxycut if you have a heart condition.

1. Talk to your doctor to see what he recommends.
2. If you can't run, then walk. Every bit of activity helps. Walking may not burn fat as quickly, but if you do enough of it it will do the same thing.
3. If your doctor says it's cool, find a trainer who can give you a workout plan that takes your heart condition into consideration. you don't need a trainer at every workout, but if you can find one who will get you started, develop a plan and show you what to do, that should help. It might cost a little bit, but it's better than having a racing heart all night of dying from someone's random exercise advice.

Disregard what I said, then. I've never actually read the labels on any of those products. Like I said, I don't use them.

can your heart be fixed by surgery or something?

If you really can't run or do any hard activity, walking would be satisfactory, along with a healthy diet.. Try looking up how many calories and water intake you'll need a day.

I also think sauna's are a good way of staying healthy. Not sure if it will effect your heart problems though.

Have you tried lifting weights or situps/crunches? Doing those can be less stimulating than running, and might help in your case..
otherwise.. invest into one of those "Ab strap ons" that go around your waist and give you abs in a month? :P
