Hi, /fit/

i'm going to try and ride my bike to work today. According the Mapquest, it's just under 8.5 miles; I figured if I leave around 7:30am or so, I'll still be able to get there at 8:30 (according to Google, average bike speed is 15mph, and everything you read on the internet is true)

My main question is: should I eat before or after? My usual breakfast is 1 cup oatmeal + banana, so it'd either be that or I'd switch the banana out for some protein (an egg) at your recommendation

thanks

pic related, it's my bike (<3)

Before, never do cardio on an empty belly.

And make it three eggs.

Alas, I've only got one hardboiled left, but gracias for the advice

the advantage of this is that I don't have to carry that hueg bowl in my backpack that I usually bring my oatmeal in

No.

I have a proper city bike (not a clown bike like you, no offense) and I can tell you, 15 mph for an hour or more is serious business, at least if you're untrained.

admittedly, I understand that bmx bikes aren't made for long-distance consistency as far as speed, but I figure that even if I slack or don't meet the average, I'd still make it at 10 or 8 mph

just in case though, I'm probably actually going to leave around 7:15

I just realized I haven't had hard-boiled eggs in forever.

What the fuck is wrong with me.

15mph for an hour is a piece of piss, you can get to that level of fitness in a couple of months no problem

Not on a BMX.

Get a real bike

Why bump a two hour old thread? OP is obviously at work/dead.

OP here

left at 7:35, arrived at 8:33 this morning, and
left at 5:40, arrived at 6:30 this evening

It's not 8.5 miles (that was freeway distance), it's actually about 7, but it wasn't bad at all; worked up a nice sweat and got to listen to some swell music

I might make a habit of this

not OP

no thx, I <3 this one too much

Holy shit it took you forever to go 7 miles.
Get a real bike.

How can you measure how fast you go on a bicycle?
Cyclometer things?

Not OP, but didn't you stop to consider for even a second that 1.) OP may not be used to the route/biking that far yet, and 2.) uphill/downhill/landmarks/traffic might be interfering?

Sorry I'm a jackass.

No worries, brotha

OP lives in Los Angeles, so there are infinite traffic lights between me and my goal, but honestly that's no excuse

I'm pretty fit (I've lost >60 lbs. in the last year, currently 5' 11" and 155 lbs.) so I'm definitely used to tons of running, but this is a bit of a different ballgame, and admittedly, a MUCH more enjoyable one (that I still have to adjust to)
