hello /fit/.

I am 5"5 3/4, I weigh 165 pounds and I am looking to lose weight, I just turned 16 years old.

It is most noticable around my gut area, and my pectoral area. I have a gut, not all of my weight is complete fat, I happen to have pretty broad shoulders and large thighs/calfs, I play soccer, but I had to stop because I broke my metatarsal forcing me to be in a full leg cast for about 4-5 months. I gained all this weight by being in the cast due to inactivity, and I am looking to shed it off.

I haven't ever had to lose weight like this so I'm not exactly sure how to go about this. My goal is to be toned, I don't want bulging muscles or anything, just looking to be fit.

Thanks /fit/

Military-style

Watch what you eat. No soda. No beer (if you've got the willpower).

Running is excellent for losing weight...
Here's an example of what the military made me do:

1st Week: 10 sets of 10 push/sit-ups.
2nd Week: 9 of 12 each
3rd Week: 8 of 15 each
4th: 7 of 17 each
5th: 6 of 20
6th: 5 of 20
7th: 4 of 25
8th: 3 of 30
9th: 2 of 50
10th: 1 of 75

It'll kick your ass the first couple of days, but it's smooth sailing after the hump.

OP here, thanks for that information, I will be starting that tommorow.

I have a question about the reps/sets.

I understand the reason you would decrease the sets, and increase the reps overtime is to build overall endurance correct? But how long do you usually wait in between sets. Just a few seconds or is it up to you?

Also for the people who have been saying burpees, what's a good number to start out at.

thanks.

45-60 secs

Oh, lol. The reason they decrease was just so the military could get you to do the most push/sit ups in the fastest amount of time.

If you fail you PT test, you have 90 days to get your shit straight, this small program comes out to ~70 days.

I would just start out to accomplish this program and then tinker w/ it.

PS Take as much time as you need between sets. Get water/strech moar if you have to.

Also, Run for 30 minutes after...doesn't matter what pace it is, as long as you're not walking.

Not OP here.
So, will burpees, push- and sit-ups help me lose fat?

Not OP, but whats a good amount of burpees to start off with, and whats a good guideline on increments?

I was gonna ask the same question, so - seconded. Could you give me a nice chart on burpees, pushups and other exercises?

Start small, say 10 burpees. If that's too easy, do more or take less rest between sets. Do something like>>253532said, increasing your reps while decreasing your sets over a period of time. When you can do 100 burpees, you win the prison fight!

You mean start at 10 sets of 10 burpees a day, right? Would it be good to also do the same schema for pushups and situps?

Do as much of em as you can.
