Hi /fit

I desperately want to change my life around. Help me.

I am 350 pounds, a fucking fat ass, pathetic loser. I cannot run or job or sit down and put one leg on top of another. I haven't seen my penis in ages and I sweat all the time. I don't eat breakfast and I stay up all night and wake up at midday. I am winded and sweaty from walking up one flight of stairs. I eat only 2 meals a day and eat a lot during those 2 meals; enough to feed 5 skinny people each time at least. And I almost never go outside. My mom takes care of me even though I'm almost 26.

Can you help me get my life together /fit? I want to lose weight and be able to fold my legs.

I plan to start sleeping earlier, exercising, eating less while having more healthier meals. But I need help, I've got questions.

How do I exercise when I can't even jog? Would it be better if I starve myself a little? I mean I have a ton of fat to burn it would help wouldn't it?And if I do lose weight, would would happen to all the skin I have? Would they contract or would I have to have surgery? Has anyone else here been over 300 pounds and loss the weight? What is it like?

yes. just do things like walking. even short distances.

you don't necessarily have to eat a lot less either. you just need to eat right.

a version of negative calorie diet would be great for you since you are used to eating so much. start your day with something very filling, but healthy. like oatmeal.

throughout the day you can eat plenty of negative calorie foods until you are no longer hungry. google neg calorie foods for a list.

then at dinner have some baked chicken or fish with a nice delicious side vegetable.

Well, there's no secret to the willpower you'll need to make changes.

You need to eat less. You don't need to starve yourself, however, you do need to Eat 400-500 calories less than your Basal Metabolic Rate (the amount of calories you burn doing nothing). There are plenty of calculators online to find this number out. Just google "BMR calculator."

You will also need to do a solid 45 minutes of activity every day. At your weight, I would recommend a slow walk, or riding at an easy pace on an exercise bike.

It's not hard, it just takes willpower. Make sure you record your progress, as well. It's a good motivational tool.

Definitely do not starve yourself... this is counterproductive and only leads to you gaining the weight right back when you start eating again. I guess your first step is to adopt a healthier sleep schedule... this can be pretty much corrected in a matter of weeks. Just go to bed earlier one night or if you can't, stay up through an entire night and go to sleep at a decent hour the following night. It takes some will power to get up in the morning when you're not used to it, but if you want to take your life in a different direction you are going to need to start building some will power.

You say you can't jog? I guess the first step would be taking walks then... Ideally you could take your walks in the morning before you eat breakfast so you are burning fat instead of the carbs you've eaten. This will also help you get your blood pumping and wake up. Also do the best situps you are capable of and begin doing some weightlifting. Having more muscle helps burn fat faster.

On the eating front... I wouldn't necessarily say to immediately start eating LESS so much as eating much healthier.

You are probably going to have some loose skin, but a lot of it will tighten up as you lose the mass. It won't be as bad as you think and it will certainly be better than the way you are now.

All these comments about willpower has gotten me thinking if I am able to really do this or not.

I am doing it simply because I have the time, and I can. It's not short term difficult in any way, and the results show.

Just stick to it, and results will repay you.


Rather than think if you have the willpower to do it, just do it. You're already asking for the help, so it is your choice. What it takes to do it isn't what's important, it's that you CAN do it.

If you stay the way you are you will:

Replace red meat with chicken and fish. Eat salad and greens when you want a snack and before your main entree at every meal. Sip water at every meal. Don't drink soda or junk food. Eat 3-5 meals a day and light snacks (greens, nuts, fruits). Cut your portions in half. Use the small plates and bowls. Eat breakfast. Go to bed at 10 (i know its like 12 something right now) and wake up early, you will have loads more energy.
As far as exercise, walking 30 minutes a day is the easiest way to lose weight with proper diet. When you are capable, start doing body weight exercise (squats, push-ups, jumping jacks).

motivation is the key to it all. self discipline and will power come can be developed, but the motivation to change is key. if you can find the connection between what you want and making it happen and get your self motivated you can do anything. So find a way to get motivated. I personally had to get counseling and get into a better place mentally. Some people listen to music. Some people are religious and that drives them. Some people have friends that help them along. In your case I would say you need to develop a motivation to want to be a new, better person and that every step you take in that direction will make you stronger.

Not the op, but I'm a fucking fatass too. I've started doing light weight training and walking, but where I am asmatic it is nearly impossible for me to do anything high impact. Maybe things will be easier once I start losing weight. Is there anything more I could be doing than weight training, walking, and eating better? I'm highly motivated and want to do as much as I possibly can. This is my 5th week of this and I've made huge gains, but I believe most of it was water weight.

If I take your description correctly, OP, can I assume that you have NEVER been too physically active in your life? If so, then I would suggest you do a bit of work on gaining a bit of muscle mass to hold up your frame and raise your metabolism in your search for fitness. Obviously, it's the aerobic exercises that tend to help a person lose the weight, but for a person your size and fitness level, it's important for you to be able to do aerobic exercises without injuring yourself.

The part you're going to need to focus on is your legs and core, so that you can carry all that weight around enough to burn it off. Ever hear of the PBS show Sit and Be Fit? Sitting exercises to help build some muscle on you might be a good place to start. Low impact exercise is going to be your best friend until you gain strength and lose a lot of that weight. Running around fat is going to erode your joints, and you won't be terribly inclined to exercise anymore if you blow out your knee or fuck up your back. If you have access to a pool, then perhaps water exercises are going to be your speed. Water's great, because the buoyancy relieves stress on the joints, while the water itself provides resistance exercise to build strength. Swimming laps is a very effective low impact aerobic exercise.

If you ain't got access to a pool, then make sure you don't overdo things at first. Walking is great. Climbing stairs is good for strength, but do it SLOWLY at first, especially on your way down the steps.

As far as cutting calories, there are tricks to significant calorie cuts you can start doing right this very minute. Number one, DO NOT drink soda, or really any sweetened beverage. That includes "diet" shit. Just break the habit. Drink WATER. I'll repeat that for effect: DRINK WATER! At least two liters a day would be good. Buy a water bottle, and keep it with you all the time. Water is the most beneficial beverage you can consume at this point. Most people would shit themselves if they knew how many calories they consumed in their daily beverage intake. It's unreal. Second, write down everything you eat. It's said that keeping a food diary, and actually seeing an account of what you've physically consumed on a given day is a very effective tool for lessening your consumption of calories. Third, READ LABELS. Nutrition information and ingredient lists are posted on food boxes and fast food pamphlets for your benefit. Learn to use that information to make better choices in your daily meals. Fourth, cook your own food. Between reading labels, and doing work beyond going through a drive-through or popping something into a microwave, you should be able to gain an understanding and appreciation food that goes beyond just stuffing it into your mouth until you can't breath.

I hope these specifics help. One last bit of advice is DON'T PUT IT OFF. Don't start tomorrow. Start tonight. Start drinking water. Begin an eating journal. Go to your kitchen, and start looking at the nutrition labels on your favorite foods, and doing some calculations. Go for a walk. Then, tomorrow, do it all again.

3 places to start:

1. stop eating fastfood (anything that's fried).
2. stop drinking soda.
3. make it a point to park your car at the end of the row wherever you go.

you never have to hunt for parking spaces as bad, and you'll end up exercising all day, without having to schedule it.

try doing all those 3 things, or pick 2 or just 1. your best bet is to just try walking.

4. buy a good pair of walking shoes (new balance)

your joints will thank you later, and you can still use them when you're able to jog and eventually run. I still use mine.

hey OP, start with the true basic. pick a calorie count below your BMR (say, 2100 calories a day) and eat no more than 300 calories at a sitting, perhaps adjusting to 400 for meals before noon if needed. you're too fat for most of the suggestions in this thrad to be useful. you can eat anything but keep your meals small and frequent.

for example, 6" turkey and ham sub -- no cheese, no mayo, no oil, but mustard and all the veggies -- is 267 calories. that and a 32oz diet coke should satisfy for a couple hours. (one of my favorites was a tallboy of beer and pack of pep-o-sticks, 297 calories)

come back when you get down to 250-260

It really is that simple. Prepare, (IE: proper shoes, eat correctly) and just for God's sake - Burn some calories.

Diet is the laziest way to lose weight, but that is a hard habit to break.

As someone said, increase the quality of your food.

And as someone else said, once a day, go for a stroll.
Just a quiet stroll. Anything to increase your heart rate. Walk down and pick up that new Wii magazine or something. I don't know, whatever you're into.

You'll be surprised at how actually enjoyable the outside world is. New smells, new sounds, and the occasional hot drunk bitch slumped over a park bench.

If you cant exercise, that's fine, most of weight loss is done through dieting. If you're inactive as hell, try eating 2000 calories a day, you're going to feel like you're starving, but your body doesnt need anymore than that to survive, you're all you do is sit around all day.

The weight will melt off if you EAT LESS!
do this for yourself, do it for your family, they'll be much happier to know you'll live past age 35, without going into cardiac arrest.
