wth is gray muscle? Anonymous
what the hell is the gray part? is it not muscle but rather that tough connective tissue... as in tendon or collagen or am I made of just pure fail? i don't get the purpose of using two highlight colors all the time in muscle diagrams. especially i notice this area is the largest "gray" area and also the bottom of the legs too

It's the tendon... which connects muscles to bone, unlike a ligament which combines bone with bone. Every muscle has this connective sheath near its origin/insertion.

Tendons don't contract, bulk up visibly in appearance, or anything like that, so it's useful to know where they are in relation to the muscle belly and insertion points. Also from a medical perspective they get different kinds of injuries.
