Sup /fit/,

So I cut my foot open really bad. It was squirting blood and has two large filet-style cuts, totaling almost a quarter inch into the bottom of my big toe. The slices are in a complete "C" shaped pattern. One is a larger, making all the layers of skin into a flap; the other is the same shape and about a third of the size, but not enough of a flap for me to clean the dirt out of it. What the fuck do I do? I have no medical insurance or money for the doctor, or a ride. I've cleaned it as much as possible with anti-bacterial soap and peroxide laced tweezers and q-tips. It's been wrapped with gauze and tape. How long will it take the skin flap to heal closed, and what is the risk of infection?

tl;dr If a cut is so deep I can't sufficiently clean it, am I gonna die? How long will it take the skin flap to heal closed, and what is the risk of infection?

Pic closest thing I could find to what wound looks like.

not a doctor, but most I can say is to try and get someone else to take a look at it and pass it over a few times with soap, and then with alcohol.

It sounds like you did everything right, at least first aid wise, and while this isn't necessarily a case for the emergency room (at least if you managed to stop the blood from flowing out) you should still get someone else to take a closer look.

Neosporin that shit, band-aid it up, then wrap with medical tape.

Clean as best you can, change the dressings and clean the wound 2 or 3 times a day, and keep an eye on it. If it starts to get puffy and reddish around the outside, gets more painful, or discharges yellow or green pus, then it's infected. At that point you should probably see a physician. If you start to see streaks traveling from the wound area then at that point you absolutely need to see a doctor right away. It's called lymphangitis and it can kill you in fairly short order.

I cut the right side of my right foot really bad. Cut all the way through the skin from the pinky toe to a quarter ways up the side of the foot.

Butterfly sutures, then gauze, then tape the gauze down, then wrap the area in cloth. For mine, I also used those "teethy metal clips" to hold the wrap together. Changed the bandaging once every 2-3 days.

It'll leave a nasty scar after it heals. I cut mine about 10 years ago and the scar's still there in all its glory.

clean it well.

for cuts on areas that frequently move/dont work well with traditional bandages, I use super glue. Am I the only one?

OP here. I'm not really as worried about the healing as I am about infection. I cleaned the wound really well (alternated soap and water and peroxide multiple times, using q-tips and tweezers), but there were obviously still a little dirt really far in the wound I couldn't reach.

Just wondering if I should let the skin heal up over possible gunk.

As long as you watch for infection don't worry about it too much.
