ARGH, MAH FACE Anonymous
Sup mis/fit/s?

I'm 19, reasonably fit, workout intensely and eat pretty well, however over the last month I've hit a real social problem.
Acne.

Now I've always had just a tiny bit here and there, but lately it's gone batshit insane on me. Clearisil Ultra facewash&cream combo was doing NOTHING for me even when applied twice daily. Showering twice a day didn't seem to halt this horrible spread of fail across my face and now chest/upper back.
So I consulted my GP, he gave me Differin and so far, it's achieved fuck all for the $50 it cost me.

Now, in my hour of horrible self pity, I come to you. What can I do to stop/treat/ prevent this?
Thanks a bunch in advance.

tl;dr - acneh, halp.

Also just to add, it's now been 20 days using the Differin once daily as indicated.

tried clearisil at first, fucked all happened, got prescribed differin and smoe other crap that didn't work, had similiar shit to proactive though

I've tried Clearisil too, pretty sure that shit does absolutely nothing whatsoever.
One point I was convinced it was actually having a negative effect on me..

What was the other shit called, any results with it?

ehh can't find the packet near me but it did shit all, its essentially like proactive, maybe give that a go? try getting a referal to a dermo, they're way fucking better than getting a doctor to prescribe shit to you, thats what I'm trying to do

Serious advice from anon who had similar acne to you.
Differin doesn't do shit. Especially for your type of acne which is definately not mild enough for some shitty little tube of gel like clearisil/differin etc.

You need accutane. Shit will change your life.

I think I'm going to go with that as a last resort, I've heard some pretty bad shit about Accutane, not sure it's available in Australia anyway. What was your experience with Accutane like?

But seriously, why the acne now? I'm 19 for fucks sake, not just hitting puberty at 14 or something. Don't eat chocolate or a lot of fat, don't work in a grease factory either.

Accutane is in Australia I know two friends who have used it in Victoria and it did wonders for them.

acne.org

put some effort into searching that site and you'll get results

but you have to stick to a plan for at least a couple months, this isn't an overnight thing.

I'm using the actual "acne.org regimen" but you can substitute it with any cleanser, benzoyl peroxide and mosturizer you want that works for you. Just look at the product reviews and what you can buy at a local store or whatever, but trust me shit works.

Change pillow slips daily.

Differin DOES work for people who have acne due to clogs/oil sores that THEN get infected. I have moderate acne even at 22 and differin clears it right up. I'm guessing sudden onset of intense acne = bacteria. A course of laser-guided antibiotics might work in this case.

I do change my pillow case pretty frequently and every time someone else sleeps on it.
However, a sudden onset doesn't make much sense, since I again, eat okay, relatively fit, work out, don't stay in the sun too long, shower every day, use differin and clearisil.

Only thing I can possibly think of is working out, increased testosterone perhaps. But then what's the solution, not training? Fuck that.

If you just recently upped the amount of time you spent working out yes a sudden spike in your testosterone could do it.

I've had a similar issue to yours. My acne was pretty severe, but it's a lot better now. IMO, not all treatments work the same for all people. What helped me the most actually surprised me.

I've tried Clearasil and even got suckered into buying that Pro-Active stuff form TV. A bunch of my friends swore it worked but it seemed to make things worse for me. Ditto for Clearsil (pardon the spelling).

What seems to work for me is washing my face with water only. If I scrub my face too often with soap it seems to irritate my skin and then it sweats grease like a roasting chicken. Whenever my face feels greasy I just go to the restroom, splash cold water on my face and wipe it down with a towel and my face feels much better. That's the only thing I've been doing and I've had HUGE improvements. Been doing this for about 3 years.

The other posters are right too, watch what you eat, and if you're doing anything that's making you sweat you might see your acne come back like crazy. I wash my face after a workout though (sans soap, just cold water) and I don't get pimples again.

The only thing I have problems with are blackheads around my nose. My water treatment doesn't get rid of them 100%, but they're minimized.

Good luck though!

cut all sugar from your diet...this includes fake sugar.

Try it for a week and if it helps your skin, then keep it up

Use sunscreen dipshit. After a while you'll get to where you don't need it. Don't parents teach kids common sense these days?

GTFO

Also, sun while having the benefit of short term relief for acne, has a negative effect on long term acne, will cause it to scar more and will dry out the skin, killing more cells, causing more blockages.
Also, moar cancer, burns, etc.

I have moments when my skin goes apeshit and i break out in spots, so i tend to put on Clean&Clear dual action moisturiser. It's oil-free and calms the skin and prevents blemishes.
The stuff works amazingly on me, and quickly too. It's by Johnsons i think.
To wash my skin though, i use tea tree oil face wash. Works well too.
