Sup /fit, requesting some advice.

Since I'm sick of being a lazy bastard, I've decided to start working out again. I live in the middle of fucking nowhere so I'm pretty much restrained to doing free weights.

But that's not my question, I'm a pretty skinny guy, 5'7 1/2 (171.45 cm) without shoes and 135 lbs (61.2349699 kilos) in boxers. Last time I worked out I didn't coordinate my diet and I had virtually no gains. I think total I went up about 5-10 lbs in weight despite trying my best to up the weight every week.

My problem was my diet. From what I've read, not only was I lacking in good nutrition, but I also had far, far to few calories. For a good weight (muscle) gain diet, what does /fit/ suggest?

Lots of proteins, lots of protein, 500 calories more then what you require in a day.

I've heard good and bad things about protein supplements. In /fits/ opinion, are they useful or a rip off? Personally I'm not sure.

And is 500 calories enough? If so it'll save me a ton on food. I'd heard it take way higher for people with high metabolisms.

500 calories MORE than what your body needs with its metabolic rate right now. Google it, lazy. Find out what your BMR is from google.

If by protein supplements you mean protein powder then it works fine.

Yes, I knew what you meant. I meant is only 500 more calories going to be enough. It doesn't seem like that much for adding muscle.

Should I just take the progressive root and keep upping my calorie intake by 500 or so every few weeks until I start gaining?

Alright, just making sure.

500 over is enough. You will not be gaining a pound of muscle a night. If you eat too much you'll just be gaining fat.
