most bad sleep habits stem from high frequency light being processed by your eyes (computer screen, etc.) Our bodies are wired to start producing melatonin when the sun's going down.
What you need to do is turn off the computer/tv at a reasonable hour, exercise in the day, eat right, and not take naps in the day. If you are willing to get up at a reasonable hour every day (the same time every day), and allot a certain period of time as 'sleep' every night (going to bed at the same time every night - don't think about sleep, that'll come with time). After about a week or two of being really tired your body WILL get into a proper rhythm and you'll fall asleep when you go to bed. If you take naps in the day, kiss your burgeoning rhythm goodbye.
This is the same advice that just about every 'insomniac' gets. You. Are. No. Different.
