So I hear Olympain/really fit athletes have HRs of like 60-70.

I am usually about 60-64 myself and I run an hour a day.

I was wondering.. last night as I layed in bed witing to fall asleep I checked my HR for fun and I was at like 52-56... was this because I was in a very rested stated and about to pass out?

Also I checked my HR via my neck.

Endurance athletes have much lower resting heart rates. Like in the 40s.

I remember reading that some woman with a record breaking VO2 max has a resting heart rate of like 36bpm.

Ah ok thanks, I guess my healthy diet and cardio sessions are doing me good. I thought under 60 was a bad thing but it's better than what some of my fat friends that play warcraft have at resting (76-80+) :x... poor guys.

Strong athletes have a HR between 50 to 70, you're good.

I just measured mine, 63bpm, I'm 187cm tall and weight 85kg, not so good I guess.

I'm an athlete and I have 50 on avg.
>> Anonymous
Also depends on genetics. I do quite a lot of cardio, weight 74kg for 181cm an,d have a HR of 70 sitting in a chair.
>> Anonymous
OP, when you're sleeping, the body will slow down the heart rate considerably.

Strong athletes are sub 55. Athletic people or pretty much anyone with a strong heart (field workers, guys who run to class alot and eat their wheaties) should be sub 70 and can usually hover around 60.

Olympians/Elite are their own class. Lance Armstrong being hte best example had a resting heart rate of around 34. So suck on that.

Im a steady 53bpm at rest. 6'2 197lbs. I run a 3k about once a month but that is all as far as aerobic exercise.

i have a 48bpm reasting hr, I am fit but its also due to good genetics/regular cardio.

ITT: everyone is an olympic level athlete

My HR is 110 at rest. I'm completely fit and healthy though, its just something I was born with. Unfortunately my life expectancy is 45.

Mine is between 65 and 80.

A top level athelete may have a WAKING resting heart rate of <40 and it may fall below 30 during sleep.

Just took mine, 68 the first time, 66 the second.

I'm a pretty average athlete (can run 10k at a decent pace) Furthest I've run is 9 miles.
>> Anonymous
checked mine thrice with a couple minutes wait between them, first was 48 second 52 and third 64, so it varies
>> Anonymous
I just took mine right now by counting the heart beats in 30 seconds and multiplying by 2 and got 76.

I am only 17, 5'10 and 140 lbs. Is this horrible?

i have a resting heart rate of 60 even. because ive been doing mauy thai for an hour and a half everyday, for 8 months, except sundays.

Im 5'8 and 170 pounds.

try taking an actual resting heart rate. right when you wake up in the morning.

19 year old, 200lbs 12% BF

Resting 65-68 BPR. Decent I guess. Work out 1.5-2 hour a day includes weights/cardio

To be honest if you are resting I don't believe you work out an hour everyday... well first of all is it just weight training? That is good for you but you really need cardiovascular training for a good HR.

83 may be because of your genetics but I want to doubt that. Grats on being out of shape and posting that you do an hour a day of INTENSE workouts to make yourself feel better.

Why do the heart rate get down this is due to their oxygen uptake being higher in the lungs and blood? and their heart is stronger so one pump can do all?

Who else is going for 2012? Im going to be training at my countries top performance centre. Leaves me less time to be on the computer and typing this shit out XD

Hi its OP. No I dont want to get ready for 2012... I was just using olympians HRs as an example. I do want to run 10k marathons though.. im about ready.. and later train for triathlons too.

when i used to run a lot i used to be obsessed with checking my hr it would fluctuate between 60-65 but when i was about to go to sleep it would go down to the low 40s. i heard when armstrong was doing all of the tour de frances his resting hr was 32...

Im going for a 9 mile run tomorrow, Im making it intervals so I run for 10 secs jog (rest) for 15, then sprint as fast as i can for 5 secs, jog for 15secs, repeat
Do you recommend checking my HR? I rather not know what it is for morale purposes haha
>> Anonymous
I had a RHR of 72 before I started working out again 14 mnths ago. Haven't tested it since. I'll try my HR monitor tomorrow morn.

I went to the doctor today to see if I could get a perscription for modafinil while also figuring out why I wake up paralyzed from head to toe after I get a night's rest.

When they checked my heart rate and blood pressure I had 116 over 67 and a heart rate of 42 bpm.

Is this a good thing at 250 lbs? I work out pretty regularly but my endurance seems to suck regardless of my heart rate.

it's because you're fat, fatty.

Your hr is too low considering the stress of seing a doctor and all(even if you didn't feel stressed) and your body weight. I'm suprised your doctor isn't investigating...
>> Anonymous
ummm...when i am awake, my heart rate is like 40-50.

i dont do endurace exercises, and am sedintary almost 80% of the time.

is there something wrong with me?

AEROBIC olympic athletes DO NOT have RHR of 60-70 (hell, maybe while training they do).
