/fit/, question about protein powders and such.

I've been going natural for the last 5 months of training and finally am feeling emo about my gains. All my friends use powders and are bigger and show off like pricks.

I myself know I'm naturally strong but was always scared to play with the powders... do any of you use any? and are there any 100% natural or safe ones?

One of my friends at the gym uses cretein or something, what is that? All I know is that he puts 3-4 spoons in a bottle of water and chugs it at the end of his workout.

pic semi-related: it's a protein but I have no idea what brand, i don't know anything about them.

Protein is not used primarily to get stronger. Its used to repair and build your muscles faster after your workout. Creatine is used for the same reason as the powder by just giving you a boost in gaining mass. I find that most would agree that Optimum Nutrition's Whey Isolate is a pretty solid choice for a protein powder.

If you start to use powders, be prepared to maintain this habit for a while. Your body will adapt to the gains you make using it, but once you're off the stuff your gains are going to drop

Because they workout harder, fast, better.

I lol'd. Protein powders and steroids work the same, amirite?
>> Anonymous
Lol. Using protein doesn't mean you aren't "natural". It's fucking whey protein, it's used to give your body extra protein. Creatine and whey are both %100 safe.
>> Anonymous
Yeah, because protein from fucking WHEY is so fucking unnatural.

LOL no. Get out of here uninformed fag

Hey its OP.. no not really, we don basically the same workout.. but they chug fucking spoons of the shit non stop... so what the fuck is the deal?

hey its OP, so they are just being stupid being drinking like 5+ spoons a day?

They have when they get up, a shit ton at the gym and before they go to bed too... just confuses me..

but I guess i'll read a lot more into all this powder stuff and make an iformed decision.. I'd like to get bigger but not sure of the cost yet.. I eat a lot of natural proteins.

3 to 5 grams at the most per day(about a tablespoon) and even some researchers think that might be more than adequate.

and there is no reason to use it any other time except after workout. retards like your friends are the reason creatine has gotten a bad rep for bloating and kidney dysfunction(even though creatine has never shown these properties during studies).

Its sci-MX

Exact one I used.

It's not the shake that's making your friends bigger (well maybe the creatine arguement of water absorbtion)

They just do more than you.

Then agan type of workout and muscle density also has a factor. You can have big muscles but weaker than someone with smaller leaner muscles.

Stop fretting about the size, and actually get fit, not some over built fool.

whey protein is just a by-product of the cheese industry which goes through purification process to remove most of the lactose etc.

Protein is good for you. The creatine should be split into two doses, usually. One in the morning, and one post workout. This is the optimal time.

Not only that, it seems like your friends are taking in excessive amounts of creatine because it's not working as well as it should, most likely because they don't know shit about cycling. Any good trainer will have you cycle between using and not using, usually between 4 and 8 week periods, varying between people.

ok your mates are gettin bigger than you cause they are having an increased calorie intake, cause if you wanna put on weight you need more calories than you burn in a day, and vice versa if you wanna loose weight. the protein powers are usually high calories too, plus contian certain amino acids and other stuff which help you use those extra calories to create more muscle mass...

if your mates are putting 3-4 spoons of creatine in a bottle every day hes doing it wrong, as all you need to do is load it with that intake for 4/5 days, then you can maintain that loaded level with one spoon a day for a 11/12 week cycle... come off it, then start again in another week. should help your body cope with it.

use correctly all of these are perfectly safe, natural and effective.

and its all pointless if you dont train hard enough or specific enough... look up ideas for muscular hypotrophy training which will help you put on size.

one last thing to remember, you gain size and strength in 2 different ways... size is not strength.

i use mutuan mass cause im a endomorph and find it v-hard to put on muscle mass... so the extra calories are a godsend... but that shit is hardcore so i wudnt recommend as your fist one.

informed-fag.

.......You say you're natural? Protein powders are not considered taking a step into the "UN natural" The category of "natural" in bodybuilding simply means that no steroids/prohormones or any other chemcially induced reactant is used in the formation of your physique........just a FYI

Whey is not that useful. It's primary use for a non-body builder is because it's a fast acting protein--which is what the body needs after working out. Thus, taking it after working out is really enough.

However, your diet will almost always incluede enough protein to support and grow muscles without it. Most people just super load on protein, protein, protein because they're not getting enough carbohydrates to fuel their body, thus the majority of protein is not going towards muscle development, but energy.

A proper mix of carbohydrates and protein, with whey taken after your workout is more then enough protein for your body.

All creatine does is improve water retention in the muscles, which allows them to stress themselves a little more. It's not a huge factor, and is not necessary in the least.
