Used Weights suggestion Anonymous
Often it's mentioned that the best way to acquire expensive weight sets is by buying it used locally. I found a few potential sets, but I wanted to ask a few basic questions:

1) At what price point (per pound) do you say it is a good deal and a must buy? I am not sure how much olympic 45 pount plates go for new.

2) I would like to get a squat rack for the basement. I don't care if it is new or used. Any suggestions? What brand/model do you have that is working well for you on the safety and convenience variables?

3) I imagine it's personal preference, but are the olympic style weight bars the best? The gyms I have gone to have always had that style and I seem to like it.

Thanks anons,

1) brand new plates usually sell for .99 per lbs. i.e. 45lbs plate is usually 45 dollars. if you can get used plates for less, go for it.

2) I'd buy it new if I were you, for safety reasons. Its a good investment.

3) non olympic bars don't go very far up with how much weight you can put on them. Eventually you're going to need an olympic bar so you might as well just get one to begin with. Plus when you're learning form you can use the bar on its own since it weighs 45lbs just by itself.
