Sup /fit/. So I quit smoking 3 days ago and want to get into shape. I did my first round of HIIT today.

I loved it. I lasted surprisingly long... 10 rounds of 30 seconds on, 30 seconds off (though I had to take a 90 second break partway through). I just kept going until I was on the verge of passing out and/or vomiting. I was just about to collapse, but the endorphin high is so intense. Can't wait to do it again.

Only problem is that my saliva started to get really thick at the end. Like, really, really thick. I was practically choking on my own spit. I kept having to spit it out. When I got home I took a shower, and spent about 40 minutes constantly coughing shit out of my lungs and dealing with thick, suffocating saliva.

Is this normal? Will this eventually go away?

Also, as a beginner, how often should I be doing HIIT? Every other day? I don't know if I can handle 2 days of this in a row yet, but I definitely could do every other day continuously.

3 times a week? I'm pretty sure I can handle every other day, which would pretty much work out to 3 times a week. Cool, so I'll start with that.

I also do kettlebell. Have done that even when I was smoking, so I'll continue with that.

I have an extremely busy schedule. Would doing HIIT every other day and kettlebell exercises be enough? Do I need more, do I need to go for jogs on days between HIIT, or is that "enough"?

Cardio is always good for you. A jog after your weightlifting (cardio before workout will lower energy left for weightlifting) will help. But the weightlifting itself will help you get into shape.

Haha, no, I wish. Those Russian guys can be crazy built.

I mostly just use it for lifts, curls, and the classic kettlebell swing. I would use it for cleans, but I can't figure out the proper form. I tried a set of cleans once but I did it wrong and messed up my back, so I'm postponing that until I get more experienced.

yeah i smoked 2 cigs on my way to college this morning, 1 at lunch and 1 on the way home, then ran 9 miles, id normally only run 6 but hte endorphin high got to me and i just couldnt help but run more.

anyway yeah the saliva thing happens to me too, in fact im still coughing up shit.

OP here. If you're only smoking 4 a day, my advice to you is to quit right fucking now and never look back. If you keep doing this, it WILL creep up to a pack a day, you'll start feeling like shit all day every day, you'll start doing very real and noticeable damage to yourself, and quitting will be a lot harder.

Smoking 4 a day is fucking stupid. You're in the honeymoon phase of smoking. It all goes downhill fast if you keep smoking.

Im not a smokefag, but my dad and brother smoked in the house, after a tough workout, I spit like that, but I don't caught anything up, i think it might have something to do with the smoke, yes.
