riddle me this /fit/. why is it that we are supposed to wait around 24-48 hours for muscles to heal when we work them out but body builders work them out everyday of the week for about 5 hours a day (professional body builders). it looks like what they do is working and what we are told isnt. the it would seem like their muscles would have no time to heal and just tear themselves up

because they dont.

most bodybuilders train bodyparts as most, 2x a weak for each group. some will do a day for back width then another day for back thickness.

they also spend more like 1.5 - 2 hours per workout, they can train longer because they are taking steroids.

you don have 15 years of lifting under your belt
you don have a perfect diet of 8000+ calories per day
you aren't taking every supplement known to man
you aren't taking a myriad of pharmeceuticals
you dont have gifted genetics
you dont have the mental strength to give 110% each workout

this is why they can train like this

ive seen videos were they say they just destroy themselves everyday. for example they do biceps 7 days a week. biceps consists of 2 muscles (bi) so if they work out one part one day and the other the next what do they do the other 5 days?

ahh i c. point taken

no you didn't

no pro bodybuilders train biceps 7 days a week.

they destroy a different muscle group each day.

please show me this video, you are mistaken.

nobody lives in a gym all day. big strong guys don't spend all day in the gym

body builders train muscles that you don't even know you have for half an hour a week each. they are so into the iron game that they can spend 30 hours a week lifting and not hit the same muscle group on two consecutive days.

This. Seriously, never compare anything about a pro bodybuilder to a normal joe, because frankly, steroids make it a whole different ballgame.

this is true

on top of that they are training like animals and eating flawless diets and have crazy genetics, so even if you took steroids theres no way you would get to their level

what about "all-natural bodybuilding"?
they are tested so frequently they cannot take steroids, but they still workout more than the average person
while steroids do help, they have more commitment than most people that workout
bodybuilders have amazing regimes of specialization workouts (that work the same muscle usually only twice a week) and amazing diet restrictions

one word, steroids

natural bb's still have bodies that are adapted to being hammered to shit every day. they have years of physical work under their belts. and they are still basically like everything in>>167062, minus the steroids. hence they are less muscular

some skinny kids first day in the gym after years of treating his body like shit and not moving is going to die if he tried to train like these people.

this is why starting strength is always suggested. its very minimal but still builds you a good base. I used it, i know plenty of people who use it. I still go back to it every few months or so because it works so well.

its not really that simple, steroids are a part of the picture, but if that were true you would see much more people with pro bodybuilder physiques, it still boils down to perfect diet perfect genetics, and training your ASS off

one of my highschool football coaches was on a pro bodybuilding circuit for a while, but he was never a high level competitor. But even at the low levels of the circuit he was talking about his diet of nothing but boiled chicked boiled chicken and boiled chicken.

he made it sound to me like all that body builders eat is boiled chicken when they are in the bulkin section of thier diet.

who says start with strength?
i finish a 5 or 6 month program with strength but hypertrophy should be the starting point shouldn't it?

IT HAS TO BE STEROIDS?!!?!

Jesus people. For both junior and college hockey I was in the weight room once a day for 5 days a week and on the ice twice a day. But I mean I was taking steroids so my body never ached at all.

FFS its called having a base. Bodybuilders might be going close to the limit but they aren't maxing

no, for beginners, with strength comes hypertrophy very fast.

just like starting strength, 5 reps per set is a great number because the beginner doesn't lose focus and stray with form

exactly, you cant train like a bb till you have a good base.

you cant make a fucking statue without any clay

most pro bbs played football for years or powerlifted etc

but best results for hypertrophy come from complete muscle failure for every set, for about 3 sets of 8-12
but if your doing strength you can't have full muscle failure because your training your Central Nervous System to be able to access that muscular power in short period of time

yes?

this doesn't change the fact

training to failure is a bad idea for noobs, thats where they tweak their back, pull a rotator cuff etc.
