I don't know if this goes in ck or here, so I'm just gonna ask here first.

So, I didn't eat fruits or vegetables growing up as a kid. By some stroke of genetic luck, I didn't get fat as a house, but I was generally unhealthy.
I'm 20 now, and I've started trying to become more fit and healthy, I've been exercising 6 days a week, cut sodas out of my diet, stop eating fast food, and trying to eat better. Most importantly, I just started to make myself fruit smoothies. Right now I'm drinking blueberry/raspberry/blueberry/banana/apple juice smoothies.
I've got a few questions
1. by not eating fruits growing up, will starting to eat them now have an adverse effect, like vegetarians who don't eat meat for years and it makes them sick when they finally do?
2. I'm using frozen berries, are fresh/unfrozen better?
3. What are some good smoothie ingredients?
thanks /fit/ you've been instrumental in my journey to not die by the age of 30

Fruits have lots of sugars (albiet natural ones) so have them each day but don't overdo it. Additionally one time when I was young and had eaten about three vegetables in my life I drank one of those Odwalla Superfood smoothies with over 9000 veggies and felt nauseous for a week. I eat spinach every day now though

It's unfortunate you didn't eat healthier as a kid, but it's great that you're living much healthier now.
I don't think eating fruits/veggies now are going to kill you, like the vegetarian thing, but you might want to check for any kind of vitamin deficiencies that could have resulted due to a poor diet as a child. AS for smoothie flavors, I don't have them often, so all I can suggest is to experiment. you might create something amazing. :)

Oh my god, it still surprises me when I hear of people who's parents didn't shove broccoli down their throats. My parents were really tough with this, I could whine all I wanted, but I wasn't getting away from my veggies.

Good for you OP for trying to start eating healthy!

1. Fruit might give you the shits if you eat alot, especially pears and such. Also, they have a good deal of sugar, but 2-5 fruits a day shouldn't be a problem.

2. Unfrozen are cheaper, and I buy those. I don't know too much about the effects of freezing fruits and veggies, but it's practical to store for longer periods of time.

3. Bananas are usually a good base for any smoothie.

Fruit smoothies are great, but don't forget your veggies in your main meal, they have the bulk of the vitamins and minerals you need in a good diet.

yeah, veggies are the next hurdle for me to overcome. I'm thinking of introducing a stray green item here and there in the smoothie process, and working my way from there.
I've got 17+ years of habit to break, I don't think it's gonna be easy

Them getting sick is mostly a mental thing. It's a psychological condition that has physical response. It has nothing to do with their body reacting to meat.

>veggies are the next hurdle for me to overcome
Spinach is a relatively easy vegetable to eat.

Including various veggies cut up into small pieces with your meals is the easiest way to get over that hurdle.
Make sure it compliments (taste-wise) what you're eating.
