The best way to get your body to start behaving as though it is starving is to do just that - starve. reduce your calorie intake dramatically. You need to eat foods that will quiet your hunger so that you will be able to stick to the plan but at the same time be almost empty of energy. You also need to make sure that you get vitamins and minerals so that you will not develop diseases. eat primarily roughage (lettuce, kale, spinach, etc.) and other vegetables because they have low calories to volume. You will need to eat fruit to get vitamins. Eat some small amount of dairy for energy. Stay away from carbs, they have too many calories.
