Hey /fit/, I normally take my advice questions to /b/ but I think this time I might need some real advice. =p

I'm 6'10'' and about 350 lbs. I carry it well I suppose, but I definitely need to lose some weight. My knees are full of arthritis and I've had a few surgeries (not based on weight) and a crushed pelvis in a car accident. So I really need to take some pressure off my legs.

The best advice I've had so far is to do X pushups and X situps (with a good diet and exercise on a bowflex) every hour or so.

Advice?

pic related. it's me.

Sounds like a bad plan to me, except the eating habits part.

Find some low impart exercise you can do without hurting your knees that gives good cardio and spend atleast 30-40 minutes a day doing it.

Elliptical machine maybe?

Stop wearing baggy clothes for starters

You'd lose 50 pounds if you ditched the curtain draped around your shoulders

If you have bad joints, go swimming. Its low resistance. On off days, strengthen your knee muscles on a rowing machine.

push ups/sit ups can be dangerous if you're inexperienced and/or fat

Elliptical, or recumbent bike. Do that for an hour every day, and then do as many push-ups, pull-ups, and sit-ups as you can. Stop eating fried shit, shit with HFCS, that sort of deal.

What the fuck? You're 350?

You look pretty fucking great.

my doctor advised me to not put any unnecessary strain on my legs. i have an elliptical machine in front of me but, again, doc said it'd be a bad idea. he suggested a bicycle machine but those are really hard to find with someone as tall as me with my legs being so long and whatnot. should i switch to vegetarian or what?

OP here, thank you. =)
But it's moreso about my bones and self esteem that I am doing this. =)

Us tall people with large frames hide our weight well. I like to think my ideal weight at 6'5" is 225ish, which is pretty slim with moderate muscle, yet the BMI says I'm overweight.

Swimming is good for you. Almost as good as Guinness, in fact.

Wait a minute.. GO SWIM IN A POOL FILLED WITH GUINNESS.

Seriously, you'd go from Fatty McBoomBoom to Bruce Lee in weeks.

That doesn't even make sense as to how that could work, yo.

Joking aside, swimming is very good exercise. YOu excercise muscles you don't normally use, and you do it in an environment that's a lot more 'user friendly' than a gym.

And the large fram thing is right too. I'm about 5'11', and weigh about 205lb, but don't show a lot of it. Of course I was born with a cogenital birth defect that left me missing everything below the first 4 inches of my right forearm, and that's probably another few pounds there.

Do try cutting down on stuff like beer and carbs, as well as sweets. drink a lot of water, and try to stay a little active during as much of the day as you can; it'll do more for your metabolism than a single long workout, or a few mega workouts per week.

Are there any cool prosthetics someone like you can get? Or are you stuck with wearing nothing or ugly mannequin hands. Sincerely curious.

so eating better (again, possibly vegetarian), x situps and pushups, 1 hour cardio a day?

OP here.

Another pic of me for your sex folders.

Shave your head or trim really short. You know why.

I've cut it since then, it's pretty short now.

eh, after 20 years of living with a stump, i'm pretty used to it. i tried a hook prosthetic in 7th grade, but not only was it really embarassing, but it was clumsy as well. it actually made things harder, instead of easier(although things like monkey bars and chinup things were a tad easier).

no i'm going to wait for the cyber arm. it'll probably be out for retail at the same time as the weight loss pills and calorie free krispy creams.

in all seriousness though, i am sorry i can't serve im the armed forces. always wanted to and foster some sort of fantasy that i coud. hehe, i still have navy and marine recruiters calling me because of my asvab scores.

Me: will having one arm impede anything?
Recruiter:....

Is this a good idea for an exercise/health regiment?
>> Onearmdude !liQT4Ry6Mg

I'd say it's a good start. Don't use arbitrary numbers though. If you can, get a blood-pressure cuff so you can measure yours and find out what kind of exercise you need to do to keep your heart rate where you want it. Doing it with a finger and a watch also works.

I always make sure I walk a few miles each day, and I make sure to eat at least 1 or 2 pieces of fruit and some veggies as well. I've cut back on dessert(3 times a week at most) and have cut out most fast foods. I don't drink beer or smoke, but if you do, cutting those will drastically improve your health.

I'm the same height and you wanna be around 210-225. BMI is complete horse shit, doesn't factor in a lot of important things. What you want to look at is body fat, which is usually done at a doctor's office using skin calipers and taking measurements all over your body.

I am 6'5" as well, but about... 170 now I think? I don't have a scale available to me right now, and I have been weight lifting for a few months. Before I came here (School in Europe) I weighed 160, but since I eat 4 smaller meals a day (3 of which are the same thing, bread. Fucking kill me) I think I lost weight, and the weight lifting definitely added a lot of muscle. I went home over Christmas break and weighed 170, which I assume is what I still weigh but who knows?

Also, bike, or better yet, SWIM SWIM SWIM! It's good for the whole body!

the bread thing will definitely make it harder to gain muscle mass. if you wanted to gain muscle mass, i'd cut as much fat out of your diet as possible.

the less fat you bring in, the more your body will use your fat reserves(sorry to call them that)(part of malnutrition occurs when the body has run out of burnable fat, and turn to its store of muscle). when you get the the fat level that is healthy, you gradually reintroduce them into your diet.

"I'm the same height and you wanna be around 210-225"

You don't know his frame. You don't know how he would actually hold that weight. Two people at 6'5" are not going to have the same ideal weight.

all I know is that my doctor said 'you're always going to be a big fella', but I imagine I can still get my body toned a little bit. gotta get rid of the bitch tits and gut.

>>14143
True, this is what my doctor merely tells me. I will never weigh that much. Metabolism, yayy...

It's cool being skinny though!
>> Anonymous
>>14197

Metabolism can change. As you get older, it slows down. I graduated HS at 140, eating garbage junk food 4 times a day. 6 years later, its 195 eating the same diet.

eat less, do more.
