Hey, fit. Career time!

I'm a very good programmer. I worked for EA and a few others and got burned out. I started my own company a year ago to build web sites. Nice ones that didn't force clients to come back over and over for every little change. We offered more features at a lower price. End of November the company will close, mostly because of bad financial decisions I was unable to veto (never partnering up again...)

So i will soon be a) jobless b) peniless c) disillusioned with my current line of work.

I'm trying to figure out what I should do next. Asides from "become an hero" BS, what would you seriously recommend? Especially eager to hear from former coders who've been where I've been.

Thanks!

What in the fuck does this have to do with "Health & Fitness?"

FWIW, if you really are a "very good programmer" just work like a single 6 month contract to get money for a couple years rent and expenses on a crappy little studio apartment.

Seriously, you can live for $20K a year, easily. So just work contracts and then take really long extended vacations. When the cash runs out, get a new contract, refill your coffers, go back on vacation.

Before I had a GF to support that is what I did. I had a tint ghetto studio apartment with a bed, a nice weight set, table & chair and laptop. That was it. I just worked out all the time, read, went on hikes, kicked back. That is what you should do.

>> html =/= programming

Depending on the complexity of the web sites he was building, there could be all kinds of back end stuff that he was having to do aside from "HTML" like writing lots of SQL, server side Perl, writing CGI modules in C, etc.

I'm not a programmer, but your single life describes my current life perfectly. I hope I find someone.

C/C++, perl, cobol, asm, dhtml+css+xml etc. extensive knowledge of game programming, 3d graphics, input control, console programming, and a lot of misc unrelated stuff.

mental health & fitness. financial health & fitness. imho 4chan/fit/ is as close to sane advice as I can find around here. What, I should post it to /r/? I don't think so.

If you have documented programming experience then just go with the typical Bob Half crap.

www.roberthalftechnology.com

I know plenty of people who get contracting gigs through them.

Hi,

I'm getting into web design for local businesses. Could you give a link to your website?

documented as in accredited? i'm entirely self taught (not that it's ever stopped me from getting a job before...)

Your past jobs count as documentation, this is fucking obvious. Now I'm starting to think your story made of lies.

not remotely health or fitness related.
if you wrote you're considering suicide, have depression or other health problems from joblessness. Or you want a job that will fit in a workout schedule, then I'd help.

But since you didn't.
reported.
