I spend the majority of my day looking at the computer, even when im working. I think this is causing eye strain on me every day and actually damaging my vision, or at least making it harder for me to focus further than I used to be able to, which was never really that far but not bad either. I stopped wearing my glasses recently when working on the computer (which I used primarily for reading long distances), because it gave me minor headaches and what felt like muscle strain all around my eyes. What are some good ways to keep healthy eyes /fit/?

Pic related but not me, and hopefully never.

Take short breaks. Every once in a while (let's say 30 minutes) take of your glasses and stare outside the window, into the distance for a minute or so. Also, eye drops. Buy 'em. I noticed that when I'm pretty single-minded so sometimes when working I "forget" to blink, eye drops help a lot. Make sure your computer screen is calibrated well. Too much contrast/brightness hurts the eyes. Make sure that the room you're working in is also well lit. Sitting in a dark room, staring at a bright screen = stupid. And of course there's vitamins/food supplements, but it's more for older people.

Sit at least arm distance away from the screen, rub your eyes with cold and hot water in the afternoon, eat as many colorful fruits and veggies throughout the day, and make sure you're getting enough sleep everynight.

OP here. Thanks, thats good advice, some of that I've already been trying to follow.

I usually forget to take breaks though if I get too engaged in my activity, but I thought about buying a watch to sound a not-so-loud alarm every 45 minutes or so. I am aware of the issue of screen brightness but how can I tell when my screen is dark enough at night? I keep my room well lit at all times.

I also heard that eye strain and looking at a TV/monitor for too long, even if it is LCD, can cause fatigue sometimes. Is this true? And how severe is it for most people? I am not sure if I am more likely to get tired from that or just the lack of sleep, or even nutrition. I am a bad sleeper and have a very low appetite, so I gotta do what I can to stay alive for a full 16 hour long day.

This is something I've been trying desperately to get better at. What sucks is that looking at a monitor before bedtime, usually makes it harder to fall asleep at will because of the brain recognizing any light input as daytime/waketime. I've been taking Melatonin 3-5mg every night, but most of the time it wont work at all and I'll still take 1 hour or more to fall asleep. I am usually awake for 15-16 hours a day, and usually just don't feel tired at all during the last 2 hours of the day.
