Crossfit has no equal when it comes to metabolic conditioning and GPP. Which it is primarily used for if you know what you're doing.
>> Anonymous
>>472110

Those people were in already great shape before they began training Crossfit. Xfit claiming they kicked them into shape is ludicrous and dishonest.
>> Anonymous
>>472143

true

Crossfit is great but only if you're already in excellent physical condition. You can't just not have trained for a year and do crossfit. You gotta be fit as fuck to even be able to complete the workouts.
>> Anonymous
>>472143
I don't see Crossfit making that claim. It took their conditioning and results to the next level. That's why they do it. Why do you think the SEALS revamped their traditional conditioning for xfit?

Crossfit is designed to be trained concurrently with X sport or whatever. So you can realistically strength train/practice your sport and crossfit on the same day.

Also, crossfit for lay people is a lot better than nothing/steady state cardio.

If you're a bb'er or pl'er, then xfit probably isn't for you. If you compete in a sport and want to give yourself an edge in competition via better conditioning, xfit is a great way to go.
>> Anonymous
>>472154
That's why they have scaled down workouts.

I'm in great shape and xfit gets me in even better shape because it's just another tool in the box, and I know how to use it.
>> Anonymous
>>472166

Protip: Crossfit is for athletes that weren't good enough to play professionally. Regular athletic conditioning is GPP except without all the chest-thumping and faggotry. Combine sports conditioning with a strength program and you're golden. There's no need for athletes to do Crossfit, and guess what? They don't. Because they've been doing GPP for years.

Combining sports conditioning with Crossfit, that's retarded.
GPP + even more GPP = UBER ATHL33T
Yea fucking right

Some of the most well-developed female CrossFitters had great bodies before they ever discovered CrossFit; some even competed in figure and bodybuilding pre-CrossFit.

CrossFitters I've seen who display the hypertrophy of a natural bodybuilder built their bodies with traditional bodybuilding techniques first, then adopted CrossFit.

Strength and conditioning coaches often describe CrossFit's programming — or lack thereof — as senseless and random. Alwyn Cosgrove notes that this "all over the place" programming can be dangerous:
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
>>472678
"A recent CrossFit workout was 30 reps of snatches with 135 pounds. A snatch is an explosive exercise designed to train power development. Thirty reps is endurance. You don't use an explosive exercise to train endurance; there are more effective and safer choices.

"Another one was 30 muscle-ups. And if you can't do muscle-ups, do 120 pull-ups and 120 dips. It's just random; it makes no sense. Two days later the program was five sets of five in the push jerk with max loads. That's not looking too healthy for the shoulder joint if you just did 120 dips 48 hours ago."
>> Anonymous
>>472681
The WODs come straight from CF headquarters, but it's up to individual trainers to decide how they're used. Many of these trainers are officially certified by CrossFit, but that means less than it seems. For $1,000, you can earn CrossFit's Level 1 certification in a single weekend course. (Level 2 costs $500, and subsequent certifications cost $250.) That includes lectures and hands-on demonstrations, but no written test.

No one argues that CrossFit workouts aren't challenging. They sure as hell are. The question is over the disconnect between "hard" and "smart." The truth is that every veteran strength coach I interviewed who's familiar with CF had serious reservations about its programs.

>Strength and conditioning coaches often describe CrossFit's programming — or lack thereof — as senseless and random.
This part. There's some sense to it, and its all good enough in principle.

>Practice and train major lifts: deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstands, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast.
>Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense.
>Regularly learn and play new sports.

Can you disagree with any of the principles there? Granted, sometimes the application is bad, but over all, it works pretty damn well.
>> Anonymous
>>472784
That all sounds pretty good. But, the difference is, thats not how it is on their WOD's. The main problem I have, is the Olympic power lifts with high reps. I guess it depends on what your goals are. For getting stronger, there are much better, safer alternatives. I don't agree with some of crossfits exercises, but they ARE teaching people how to do power and olympic lifts. So its a step in the right direction.

The facts are fullbody / upper lower /push pull routines > crossfit for bodybuilding and strength in every single way possible

I find it depressing that crossfit gyms are cheaper than YMCA Training Sessions. YMCA Charges $450 for 10 sessions. Crossfit is $240 for 12, unless your an annual member, then its $195 per month for 12 sessions a month.

>If y'all can provide a program that raises the level of peoples' fitness faster and better than CrossFit, let's hear it. Better yet, market it. You could be making millions off that shit.

crossfit's marketing is much more successful than their programming methodology. Actually, they don't have a methodology. It's just an amalgamation of exercises that el Coache thinks is "functional". Just because it's slightly hard for out of shape losers, crossfit encourages people to tell the whole world.

Whats better? Starting Strength. Much better program, you lose fat faster, gain muscle faster, and gain strength faster. And any old GPP program is the same thing as crossfit, except they actually have a direction.

The only reason Rippetoe is associated with them is because it gives him a user base that spans the entire world. There's not much room for expansion in little podunk Wichita Falls
>> Anonymous
The problem with crossfit is: Too much distraction with different training methods, too many reps and too much inconsistency.
There is no point in doing 15 or 20 reps, it's nonsense.

Keep it simple, short and focused, like a 5x5 or 5x3.
Takes less time and gives better results.

That "Fran" might be cool if you want to increase your stamina. Might be good for endurance sports, but not really for strength training.
