Is whey worth using?

Does it just help build mass, or does it have other benefits? I always just drink a glass or three of milk after I work out, is that enough?

uh well it's protein so yea i'd say it has benefits

you need protein if you are lifting, bulking or cutting

and you can get in around 50g of protein in 1 shake if you want, though I generally only do about 30-40 tops

which is as much as you get from most meals if not more

milk is not the optimal protein source for post workout nutrition because of its slow digestion rate. the high concentration of casein protein as well as lipids significantly slow down absorption

if you get enough protein already in your diet, whey will pretty much be useless.

Just remember that human bodies respond much more efficiently to animal proteins. And remember that each form of animal protein has different, vital amino acids.

Protein is not all the same, just like carbs are not all the same, but the FDA doesn't bother to break it down for you on the nutrition labels.

I'll say this: Make sure you regularly get protein from red meat, poultry and fish. They'll all different. It doesn't need to be daily for each, but since a week has seven days you may as well break it thusly:

Monday - Fish
Tuesday - Chicken
Wed - Beef

And just keep up a cycle like that. Don't get accustomed to drinking whey proteins too often. They're helpful, yes, but too many people exlusively chug whey shakes thinking it's a wholesome way to get ALL their protein...and they're dead wrong.

Yeah definitely do not substitute whey for all your protein. The only time you're going to use whey is post workout. You get protein from the foods listed above. Whey is used as a post workout boost.
