I do power cleans in my school's weight lifting class, I'm not a big fan of them. But it lets me know that my quads are a lot more out of shape than I thought.

Uh, bruises randomly appearing might be a sign of cancer.

Just curious

I was also wondering where I should be carrying the load. Ripptoe said front delts(where my bruises are). I've heard chest as well. Does it matter? Just go with what feels good?

Carry it right on your collarbones. It's more stable there. You're going to lose it if you carry it on your chest. Also, put your elbows up high when you carry it. Bruising on the collarbones is normal and it decreases after a while. Bruising on the thighs means you're bumping it off of your thighs. Think of going up in a straight line (like jumping with weight) instead of swinging it up, which you're probably doing since you're bumping it off of your thighs. If you can, work out with a friend who knows how to do powercleans to watch your form. You can also film yourself doing it.

I bump it on the way down on the thighs so it doesn't slam into the floor. no bumper plates. Thanks for the info though.

Not exactly completely on your collar bone.
Think about throwing your elbows forward when you attempt to catch the bar. Your delts should also carry alot of the weight. Look at 2:51

Think of the bar as almost chocking you.

As for the bruises it's normal. Over time they will appear smaller and smaller then they'll stop appearing

bruise across collarbone happens as weight gets up there, thighs too if you're dropping it on em, durrr.

also - do full cleans (catch in front squat). you're gonna want coaching and/or a form check from someone who knows what they're doing
