Sup /fit/

Im joining army and im wondering; will i lose weight/gain muscle during basic training?
>> Anonymous
idk are you fat?

if so then yes
>> Anonymous
Don't you need to run like 1.5 miles in 15 min? Sounds tough.
>> Anonymous
You will almost certainly lose weight. Most people, even very fit people, lose upwards of 10 lbs.

If you're a skinnny bitch, you may gain muscle, but you probably wouldn't be able to pass the entry requirements if you were that skinny.
>> Anonymous
No shit.
>> Anonymous
>>25522
and by lose weight and gain muscle.. I mean by a big difference from what I am now
>> Anonymous
>>25526

Well, what are you now?
>> Anonymous
>>25528
hmmm maybe like 10-20lbs over weight??

about 180 lbs now and 5' 10"
>> Melancholy Desert !.h6l3dXs4A
I suggest not joining the army based on weight loss
>> Melancholy Desert !.h6l3dXs4A
>>25544
You're a fucking idiot, OP said he was already joining

>> Anonymous
>>25539

Do you meet the entry weight/BF% requirements? Can you make the required APFT score to join?

If you do go to boot like that, you will wind up losing weight. But yeah, like the tripfag said, don't join up to lose weight - that's not a good idea.
>> Anonymous
You'll lose a fucking ton of weight once you lose an arm or leg to anti-personnel mines.
>> Anonymous
>>25517

1.5 miles....15 mins.....are you seriously saying thats tough?? thats over a 7 min mile time..
>> Anonymous
OP here

Im joining either way.. and no im not joining to lose weight, im joining for personal reasons and no not to look cool or for any personal gain over others

so liberal faggs fuck off im joining and thats that.. even with bombs, bullets, ied's etc...
>> Anonymous
>>25547
trip fags...

also, what are weight/BF% requirements to join the US Army?
>> Anonymous
>>25583

Talk to a recruiter. There's a cut-off weight for each height, above which you'll need to meet a body fat % standard. The body fat % is calculated using a measuring tape table wherein they measure your waist and neck, and use that along with your height to calculate a BF%.

>so liberal faggs fuck off

You're not the kind of retard who thinks only "republicans" join the army, are you?
>> Anonymous
No but you will get shot and die. Fag.
>> Anonymous
>>25591

Looks like he is. He's in for a surprise when he gets there.
>> Anonymous
Yes, you will. Having gone through it myself, though, I recommend getting your fat ass in shape starting YESTERDAY. Basic is hard enough without being the Fat One.
No offense about all the fat shit, just giving you the straight dope, yo.
>> Melancholy Desert !.h6l3dXs4A

You fail at math. Both miles can be run at a mile every 10 minute pace or better.

I'm in the air force and was like 140 when I got there and 150 when I left 6 weeks later

i hear they have to march for miles with their equipment weighing about 60-80 pounds overall?
>> Anonymous
I joined at 6'0 140lbs, graduated from OSUT 4 months later at 172lbs. I had a friend who went in at 5'10" 220 and came out around 190, but he was really pushing himself to lose it by doing extra PT on personal time and eating healthy.

>>25753
jesus, 6 foot @140? you must of been a twig when joining.

Man I'm still on two penis pushups and they are hard enough. No way anybody could get past that.

lies, i've done 3

also I am currently trying out for Green Berets
>> Anonymous
Sure, you'll lose weight fast. And by that I mean missing limbs.
>> Anonymous
You're going to lose weight... when you lose an arm.
>> Anonymous
If your legs get blown off that will knock off a few pounds.
>> Anonymous
If you get hit by a bomb you'll maybe lose 20 pounds.

Getting decapitated may cut some weight.

The exercise will build muscle but a blast will take it all away.

>>25923
How are you sure about that?

New Question then... Will i lose more weight more than gain muscle?
>> Anonymous
>>25937
Also this is OP
>> Anonymous
>>25937
you'll basically just do cardio and bodyweight stuff. you'll pretty much go to a "natural" balance of muscle/fat
>> Anonymous
It depends on if your weight and bodyfat. If you're a bigger guy expect to put off more fat than gaining muscle. If your a twig expect to put on a lot of muscle.

In Marine Corps boot camp, a friend of mine lost 40lbs in the first few weeks and put 20 back on in muscle. In the corps, if you go in as a fat body expect to loose 60-80lbs before you're put on normal rations.

I can run a mile and a half in 12 minutes with a sweat belt, 2 trashbags and full sweats on. I'm 5'11 and 211lbs.
>> Anonymous
>>25944
OP here

why thank you
>> Anonymous
>>25945
why do you want to sweat so much?
>> Anonymous
>>25653
HAHA Oh wow
>> The_Fat_Fuck !xf4elShL76
Army has max body fat of 20%

for a 6' 3" tall person the max weight is 230ish IIRC, or body fat.

Men usually have to go on body fat, women usually have to go on max weight.

Talked to the recruiter last week.
>> Anonymous
>>25978
O rly

any more info?
>> Anonymous
>>25961

It makes working out harder, plus I get to sweat most of the shit out of my body. I usually sit in the sauna with all that shit one for 15-30 minutes after workouts(which are daily).

Plus I get a good weight without any water on me after working out too. I need to drop a minimum of 3lbs in 2 weeks, but I'm shooting to drop 10+ in that time.
>> The_Fat_Fuck !xf4elShL76
>>25984
I can't give you any more specific info because I don't know what you are looking for.

I have to drop at least 50 pounds before I can meet the requirements (currently weight over 300 pounds).

Do body weight exercises before hitting boot, try to max out the PT scores at MEPS.

and if you can, wait till October to go in (new fiscal year) that way you can be sure you'll get the MOS you want.
>> Anonymous
>>25998
OP here

Where are you planning on getting stationed at?
>> The_Fat_Fuck !xf4elShL76
>>26009
was offered an 11-Xray Option 40.

Basic would probably be at Benning. Then RIP then Jumpschool, AIT, etc. I know its backwards from normal but thats the way I've heard the Opt 40 runs it from people I've talked to, that way if you wash out of RIP they haven't wasted jump school on you already.
>> Anonymous
>>26013
OP here

Interesting

but you can choose where to get stationed at right?

i'd like to get based at Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
>> The_Fat_Fuck !xf4elShL76
>>26031
dude, go talk to a recruiter.

You might be able to choose where you are getting stationed depending on your MOS, but most likely your MOS will decide where you are getting stationed. So, the very bare bones of it, sure you get to choose.

If I were to take the Opt 40 contract, then no I couldn't choose where I would be stationed. I would be stationed in Regiment.

If you took, say an Opt 4 contract then you might be able to choose between the 101st or the 82nd but I doubt it.

Once you are in Mother Army, she chooses where you go and what you do unless you have it in black and white on the contract before you sign on the dotted line.
