Hey, /fit/, I'm a 160 pound male who runs about a 21:00 5k and 1:40:00 half marathon. When I fast for a couple days, I get down to about 150 pounds, just getting rid of the food that was in my body. How many seconds per mile, if any, would come off if I dropped that weight before I raced? Thanks in advance for any ideas.

All of it.

...I don't think that's such a good idea.

It's a terrible idea. That's like not putting petrol in a car in the hopes that the lighter weight will make the car travel further.

It is utterly dependent on you. Running basically trains your body to use less energy while running, so if you're really conditioned for it, you won't lose nearly as much.

To measure how much you'd lose, though, eat normally, weigh, do your running routine (without urinating or shitting), then weigh again.

The only difference between empty stomach running and non-empty stomach running is that the former may cause you to hit your brick wall much quicker when you run out of glycogen stores and switch to burning fat.

And yes, running on an empty stomach too often is bad mojo.

That's actually a pretty good analogy.
