Which is better for fat loss, HIIT or 30 mins of sustained running at 5mph?
>> Anonymous
HIIT.
>> Anonymous
Why HIIT?

Quite honestly this HIIT sounds nice and all but I think half the people pushing it are trolls.
>> Anonymous
HIIT in the morning 30mins in the evening.

On a side note, if you aren't advanced, fuck hit. You can't use the benefit of it.

For the record, 5mph HARDLY counts as running, more like a really brisk walk.

Walking.

running is often used as a term for jogging, which is not defined by speed.
>> Anonymous
>>293447
5mph isn't jogging either. It's simply walking. Do you even know how fast 5mph actually is?
>> Anonymous
>>293454
jogging is fucking running at a slow pace, you could be going at 3mph and it would be jogging provided you were using the correct motions.
>> Anonymous
>>293456
Doesn't change the fact that it's faggotry. Running is 7 mph +

We do but it looks like you don't:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walking
For humans, walking is the main form of transportation without a vehicle or riding animal. An average walking speed is about 4 to 5 km/h (2 to 3 mph), although this depends heavily on factors such as height, weight, age and terrain.[4][5]
Powerwalking, which is when you must have both feet on the ground all the time (there's even competition for this and you get disqualified if you lift one foot to fast) is 5.5mph max.
8mph isn't walking briskly.
Running ? Jogging ? Whatever, fuck you fatfag. You are running when you overtake someone going slower than you and you are jogging when someone overtake you.
>> Anonymous
>>293474

Nah, running is a maximum of one foot on the floor at a time. It isn't defined by speed.

What kind of slack-jawed lazy bastard jogs at a pace of 3 to 5 mph?

Unless you're a granny with a walker going out for a hell ride through town, you should be hitting a faster pace than that.

Honestly, there are middle schoolers that jog faster than that.

A beginner who is runing for an hour ? It's pretty common and normal pace.
Nobody is sprinting for an hour. You would know that if you had actually run a mile this year.

err 5mph is like a person walking with someplace to go.. When I run on a treadmill I never go lower than 8...

Oh snap! You analyzed what little information about myself I gave in my post (see none) then reached up your ass and yanked out an assumption.

It is well agreed upon that the average running time for man, beginner or not, is 8 minutes a mile. That totals out to roughly 7 mph.

Also I wasn't talking about running for an hour straight. I was speaking in terms of running for 30 minutes. Obviously for an hour the average person has to adjust their pace for endurance.

Read my post better next time, I was talking in terms of jogging speeds by miles per hour but not being sustained for an hour straight.

and for christ's sake someone remind the OP to run on soft surfaces like grass. If anyone intends to do a sustained one hour jog then concrete will send your knees to hell in a handbasket.

The fuck are you talking about ? The only controversial point here is to figure out if 5mph is running or walking. It's not walking because walking is 3 or 4mph. 5mph is running. Call it jogging if you like but it's not walking.
And there is no point in jogging only half an hour unless you are a total beginner. Jogging is at least 45 minutes then an hour bare minimum. (if you run to lose fat).
If OP wants to run 5Mph, it's perfectly fine. Don't come spitting non-sense about how it's not really running because it is.

Oops, someone didn't read my post again. I never said it was "walking". I just expressed my humble opinion that it's a laughably shitty pace to jog at.

and I'll express my opinion on the subject again. I think molasses going uphill in winter on crutches can do better than a 5mph jog. I don't deem it walking because jogging is more about form than speed but you're an ass sloth if you aim at 5mph for a jog.

I don't think I need to say it again but read my post more carefully before you go trying to strong arm your opinion over someone else's.

Oos, someone is thinking he is the only ass in this thread.

So basically, save for insults, you have nothing to say about running or walking. Fine.

What aspect of the 'beginner' concept don't you understand ? 5mph isn't a goal, it's a start and a decent one for anyone. I am running with a 275pounds friend and his pace is 5.5/6.5 mph for 60 or 90 minutes. He's losing weight, his speed increase, his distance too. It's not a goal, it's a beginning.

Now you can get back to /b/.

7.5mph, basic math. Now how the fuck is a beginner runner average speed equal to an experienced one?

10mph is pretty slow if you run every other day.
