How does Christian Bale do it, damn it?

For The Machinist, he practically starved himself. He ate a can of tuna and an apple everyday for four months, and lost 62 lb going down to 120 lb. Then, he regained his weight by eating pasta, ice cream, and pizza. And then, he gained 40 lb of muscle for Batman Begins.

How the fuck? (pic related, by the way)

It's his job.

If you lost 62 lbs from your normal weight you'd have no trouble getting it back.

Money is a very good motivator.

sole focus in life is to act + be the most believable actor he can be. That plus the fact he has a personal trainer/health professional helps too

Well, the starving part intrigues me the most. 62 lb, and just eating a can of tuna and an apple. That sounds pretty damn dangerous, and all I hear here is that having such little calories in a day screws up your metabolism.

It's just being a good actor. Actors are used to doing a lot of crazy shit in order to prepare for a role.

That's probably just what the mainly ate, people always sugar coat the truth.

There are basically three body types when it comes to metabolism: endo, ecto and mesomorphs. He's probably a mesomorph.
>> Anonymous
You can also be a combination of body types. He just has good genes.
>> Anonymous
he also has a lot of money to buy the right kinds of foods for every meal every day. Imagine having a nice lean steak every day for dinner... the guy also has nothing but time to prepare for these roles. If you have the time and will power you can easily achieve it.

Does he look more lean now or back when he did Equilibrium?

HE HAS A FUCKING TEAM OF HEALTH EXPERTS HELPING HIM!

Actors are millionares. Actors can afford to have the best care possible.

Administering the right amount of everything, including steroids and nasty shit.

I read his story behind the maschinist in a mag, GQ. As always, he wanted the role to be more realistic as possible so decided to lose weight.

His diet was an apple every three days or so and little to no exercise. His doctor pretty much insisted that he better stop or his organs will be toast. Bale eventualy stopped but said it left some bad long-term effects possibly the rest of his life. How much truth is in that..I don't know

You're gay for...who?

Large fluctuations in body mass like this, using the worst nutrition possible, is terribly unhealthy. Don't do this shit, yo.

Probably not. Rapidly losing weight once or twice in your life, but otherwise maintaining a healthy life style full of good food choices and exercises will lead to a long and full life.
>> Sasky
the worst part is he did it again, though not as extreme, for Rescue Dawn. I worry about that guy dieing early, as I enjoy his acting. The weight loss thing is just because he puts so damn much into his roles. That can kill you though.

Due to his part in Maquinista, El (2004) (aka The Machinist), Christian Bale was vastly underweight (about 120 pounds on his 6 foot+ frame) when he was under consideration for the part. After being cast, he was told to become as "big as you could be" by Christopher Nolan. Bale underwent a dietary and exercise regimen and ending up weighing about 220 pounds (about 40 pounds above his normal weight). It was decided that Bale had became too large (friends of his on the film's crew dubbed him "Fatman") and he quickly shed about 20 pounds to have leaner, more muscular frame.

Even with all the fitness experts you can afford making it easier (I mean, you can pay a nutritionist and a personal trainer to stay at your place 24/7 and make sure you stick to your diet and exercise regimen,) its still pretty damn hard.

This guy is dedicated to what he does, and I respect that a lot.
