Fat Burners Anonymous
hey /fit/

Just for reference down the line. I am male, 220 pounds and 6'0". I've lost 40 pounds since January and am looking to lose at least another 20, another 40 would be great. I've got a broad build. Large shoulders and I'm already muscular, I'm just looking to shave fat. Problem is, the last month plus have been at a stand still as far as weight loss is concerned. My exercise regime is insane, I am constantly working my ass off. In fact, that is my job description. I'm a roughneck. I do not have a desk job. I work on an oil rig 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. For reference to those that don't know what I'm talking about, check out: http://www.trutv.com/shows/black_gold/video/index.html

I run around like crazy all day when I work and burn calories like I'm strung out on speed. Somehow during all this, I manage to keep a decent diet. Fruit, V8, granola bars, and peanut butter ham and spinach sandwiches are the staples of my diet, along with lots of water and no soda. I don't eat dinner, I only have a protein shake before bed right after work and eat a big breakfast when I wake up, usually 2-3 bowls of cereal. While working, I eat constantly, some days I may literally only have 10 to 20 seconds to take a bite of food before I have to be back on the rig floor. Most days I get a few minutes to eat, what I would consider small meals, at about 4 different times during the day while working. Can of fruit, granola bar and banana, sandwich, cup of soup is usually how it goes. I will sometimes eat crap food, like a corn dog or something that I get offered, but not enough to seriously throw off all the calories I've burned that day.

I work 7 days on, 7 days off. On my days off, I will still go to the gym or run 3 to 4 miles 2 to 4 days out of that week. If I go to the gym I usually work on something like my abs, then run for 30 minutes and play racquetball for an hour or more I will also usually cut my calorie intake in half during that week.

Despite all this, I've pretty much maintained 220 pounds for the past month. It's possible that some of this is fat loss but with muscle gain, but doubtful in my eyes. So I've been seriously considering a fat burning supplement. Which is why I've come to you /fit/. Any suggestions or comments on what to buy and or stay away from as far as a fat burning supplement goes? Do they even work? Any suggestions on doing anything different to maybe shock my body into fat loss mode again? I'm open to suggestions. And if you need any more information I'll be happy to provide it.

Thanks in advance

The only way to know what's going on is to speak in terms of bodyfat %, which you've not done at all. Just a bunch of weight stuff, which is only half the story. Also, you've listed all this food but no calories and macronutrient ratios.

Wow, thanks for breaking me in softly. Wtf macronutrient ratios? Workweeks I'd say I eat <3000 calories, and burn more than that on a hard day. No idea what my bodyfat % is at the moment. I suppose I can take a picture if you want and let you guess since you're such an expert. I don't exactly have time to monitor every little detail because of my job, and my weeks off I spend comatose, IE: sleeping. I eat maybe 2k calories on my weeks off if not less.

My main question was about fat burning supplements. Are they good? bad? complete bullshit? and my secondary question was more along the lines of exercise suggestions. I'm sorry I didn't specify. If you have a diet suggestion, I'd love to hear it, since I guess I'm pretty clueless. I just stay away from saturated fats and high fructose corn syrup for the most part, all while trying to stick to the most natural foods I can.
