I got 3 simple questions.

1. Obviously, walking is no workout at all compared to jogging or biking, but I was wondering is there any positive effects in walking that you can't find in jogging/biking?

2. What are good ways to increase the size of my lungs? We tested it in class and the amount of air I could take in was... absolutely pathetic.

3. Is enduring temperatures of 158-194 ( 70-90 celsius ) fahrenheit for 10 minutes 2-4 times a week going to do anything good for my body, in example my muscles? I'm going to do it anyway ( Country ritual ), I'm just curious is withholding high heat going to have positive effects.

1.) Notsure.
2.)Swimming/diving/running/breath exercises.
3.) I presumeyou mean a sauna, then yes, it does good for the skin and health overall.

1) Easier on the joints, more enjoyable for most, as long as you keep a decent pace it isn't terrible exercise and everyone can do it. Also a nice walk on rest days is good for recovery as it gets the blood flowing to muscles without being strenuous.

2) No idea.... but I'd guess it would increase with general fitness.

3) Sauna? No negative effects as long as you drink plenty of water. If you do it after working out and use a plunge pool or cold shower it can help flush blood through the muscles as going from hot to cold causes blood to rush to the skin and then to the internal organs so could help a bit. Other than that its good for the skin...

Thanks for the answers... I must've underestimated the amount of people who know what a sauna is... I always imagined it as a finland/sweden thing (except if you guys are from finland/sweden, then I'm making a fool of myself.).

People have probably traveled too, haha. But plenty of gyms and resorts have saunas, Anon. Plus, how many movies have sauna scenes?

Also just working on holding your breath can help you, I find if I spend a lot of time in the pool (like over the summer) I can hold my breath longer by the end of the summer. And if you're worried about sheer volume of breath, you could work on diaphragmatic breathing, if you don't do it already. Some Martial Arts teach it for meditation, and people who take Vocal or Speech lessons (usually for Theatrical purposes) learn to do it as well.

1. iirc it burns up roughly the same amount of energy, but I may be talking shit there. Doesn't provide anywhere near the same amount of workout for your heart though. It's enjoyable, do it to relax and to keep yourself ticking over until your next gym session.

2. Just run, and swim. You don't need to concentrate on it specifically, your body will do it by itself through your other workouts.

3. Saunas can be good, they leave you refreshed and declog pores etc. Obviously make sure you have plenty of water or you'll soon find yourself in a lot of trouble. Don't spend too long in it either. And if you have any sort of heart condition don't go from a sauna into a very cold shower, the shock to the system has caused heart attacks before.
