hey /fit/

I have a question.

Is it okay to work out the same muscles two days in a row? It seems counter-intuitive to me, as my muscles feel really sore the day after working out and I don't really feel as though I could lift anything, but my sister says that working those same muscles the day after is the ideal thing to do. She's a gymnast, by the way, and she has a really fit body, so I kind of just want to take her word for it, but it seems wrong to me.

anyway, who's right, me or my sister?

It takes a beginner around 48 hours for your muscles to fully repair and avoid overtraining. It takes advanced bodybuilders 7-10 days for their muscles to repair.

so, for example, if I work out my triceps, I should wait two days before I work them out again?

Most generic beginner programs like 5x5 and SS are full-body workouts and they have you train every other day. Bodybuilding splits usually train 5-6 days a week cycling through muscle groups, and these programs are more popular for advanced bodybuilders who must damage their muscles so severely it takes longer to rebuild.
