is it true the high rep sets make you bulky and low rep sets make you strong/lean/fast? I heard this and I am not sure if I believe it. Help would be much appreciated.

Bananas unrelated.

troll?

fewer reps = more muscle gain

naw, no troll, I just thought that lower reps made you bulky, as opposed to giving you quick (fast-twitch) strength. I was told differently recently and I wanted to verify this information.

thoughts?

lift heavy as fuck,if you can do more than 7 reps add more weight

I really wish you had to post a picture every time you are adamant about a number of reps. I've been doing 3 sets of 8 (recently bumped it up to 8x4) and have been getting great results in both strength increase and sexiness.

it may be good to do that after you've been lifting for a few months atleast, but it's good to lift heavy like that to develop a good base and find a routine that works best for you.

Makes sense to me. I did a lot of body weight exercises before I started lifting, so I could get right into it fairly quickly.

I had my trolldar on a little too high also. Whenever sets and reps are brought up I'm used to getting berated for not doing 5x5.

so you're saying that in order to not look like a world's strongest man (exaggeration I know) I should do low reps? I've been lifting for awhile so I don't need to get a good base or anything like that...
>> Anonymous
>>309837

You don't do 5x5? You must leave now
>> Anonymous
>>309837
understandable,5x5 works good, but most people dont use enough weight for it to work well anyways.Either way,if youre seeing gains then it dont matter.

You've got it wrong brah. The worlds strongest men would look ripped if they lost some fat. It's just that there's no weight limit, so they have no reason to care. If you don't want to look like a bodybuilder, do lower reps.

I've been doing 8x3 for a year and a half and I'm not bulky at all. I've gained pretty close to 15 lbs, but I'd describe myself as muscular (a kid did day I was "cut" once).

I just want to be strong and be able to jump high... I don't really want to be enormous

You can have two people do the same exact workout, but if one eats say 1.5g of protein for evey lb of bodyweight and the other eats only .8g of proten per lb of lean body weight, the one eating moar will still make better visual gains, but they still may be equal in strength.Point is,either way you should lift heavy and if you want mass to go along with the strength than eat moar protein than usual, otherwise keep it down and you wont blow up.Not that you're going to unless you put a lot of effort towards it anyways...

clean & jerks and snatches are going to be good for you to work on then, with good bits of HIIT,benching and deadlifts/squats imbetween

thanks for the advice, though chances are, I've been in a regular workout routine for longer than you.

I do all these already, any advice on sets and reps?

I've been doing snatches in a 5,4,3,2,1 kind of way where the first set is 5 reps, then 2nd is 4 with say 10 lbs moar,3rd is 3 reps with 10 moar lbs,etc and something similar to 5x5 where I do first set with 5 reps,2nd with 4 reps,3rd and 5th with 3 reps and 5th with 2 with a weight where I can barely get the last rep on last set

Theres a lot of misconception on the subject.

"Low reps vs High reps" isn't important in the least.

What you want to do is to work until you physically can't make another rep. More reps with a lower weight (Not light, I mean something your comfortable with) is safer then its counterpart, your less likely to hurt yourself.

Muscle is developed with body fat, you need fat to build large amounts of muscle. The more fat, the more muscle you can build. The muscle will be bulky and marbled.

Get bulk muscle, then hit the cardio hard and reduce body fat!
(You should have been doing some cardio along side the strength training already)

The guys that are totally ripped in bodybuilding shows and stuff dehydrate themselves to look that way. They crash diet and torture their bodies to get the super ripped look. They can only keep it up for a couple of hours and it is completely gone in a couple of days.

I always lol when I hear about bodybuilders CUTTING SODIUM COMPLETELY OUT OF THEIR DIET FOR WEEKS AT A TIME. Among many other things, your body needs sodium to fire the synapses in your brain.

Besides,a body builder I know actually drinks a fucking ton of water and takes a couple supplements, guess it makes the body keep itself constantly dehydrated.

I trained with a body builder.
The training is just like anyone else would, up until like two weeks before the show. They start the crash dieting (not sans food, just very little) and take vitamin supplements. The dehydration is done last, in the days just before the show.

While that's still not healthy, it's better than some of the things I've seen/heard about. I've heard of bodybuilders and people with body dismorphic disorder eating dangerously low levels of sodium for a pretty ridiculous amount of time.

Oh no man, I'm with yah. It is way unhealthy.

I misunderstood what you were saying, sorry.
