typical american whale here
(5'4ish, 210 lbs, possible leg muscles from years of difficult-level ddr).

i intend on getting just a regular-sized body (nothing too musclebound, maybe in the future) and i'm just wondering if using the treadmill at my house and sets of crunches/sit-ups/whatever will suffice. i also eat healthy.

i've lost about 10 pounds this year prior to regular use of the treadmill, not sure how though

TL;DR: will a treadmill at home be good enough if i just want to go from whale-size to normal-size guy with no intention of gaining hueg muscles

1) Run at least 30 minutes daily.

2) Eat LESS.

3) Come back in 3 months and show us pictures of your success.

treadmills baby ppl too much. get outside and run. do some weight training. more muscles = more fatburn. Plan a much better diet. I don't trust that you are eating as healthy as you say you are. Have patience and take things one at a time. Or else you are gonna be left with saggy skin that will make you wish you were a fatass again.

You will not achieve the body type you desire without lifting some weights.

You will not start lifting weights and suddenly be bigger or more ripped than you want.

Just lift 'til you look like you want to look, and then lighten the load to a maintenance routine.

in that case, recommend some weight-training equipment i should look for and some exercises to do

With pleasure. Got a pen?

1) Barbell
2) Plates (some 200lbs worth ranging from ~2.5lb to 45lb plates should serve you for good long while).
3) Bench

You can probably get all of this stuff on the cheap from eBay (shipping is what'll get yah) or you can search Craig's List for a local vendor you can buy from. Or you can just play it simple and get a membership to a gym with this equipment.

As for the routine you should do, the simplest and most effective is Rippetoe's Starting Strength program(look on /rs/ for the ebook).

If you want to get started and aren't intersted in getting very ripped you can actually do a pretty decent routine without much of anything. The legs are probably the hardest to train without weights.

Pushups - Wide grip and narrow grip. Start on your knees if you can't do them right now.
Pullups - Forward grip / reverse grip(chin ups)
Dips
Squatz

You could do worse than doing a lot of those.
