Am I doing this right? Anonymous
5'4", 185 pounds, female. Horrible numbers (thank god some of it's muscle gain) but they've been going down at an agonizingly slow but steady pace from exercise and some mild lifestyle changes.

I just got serious about dieting (exercise seems to have more of an impact for me than dieting as I was never an overeater) and tracking calories on fitday--is this proportion alright, or am I too far below maintenance? I'm certainly not starving myself.

(in before 6/29 is horrible--my sister's graduation party was at an Italian restaurant with few healthy options and cake was obligatory. Also I just finished lunch, so 7/1 isn't complete)

Besides just calories are you tracking carb/protein/fat ratios? I've never used fitday so i don't know if it does that for you.

It does, and there's way too many carbs in the ratio. I'm working that down though. The problem is I'm stuck at home for the summer eating family dinners, which are very carby; I only have control over portions really. I'm trying to limit carbs during the day to compensate for that. Once I'm on campus in Fall cooking for myself at each meal it'll be better.

That's probably your problem right there.

Protip: it's probably not muscle gain slowing your numbers. That's a common delusion among weight trainers, but muscle gains are rarely fast enough (20 in a year is astounding) to offset fat loss on the scales. It's a little white lie making you feel better but impairing your results.

You need to find the real reason you are plateauing. I'd suggest varying calories between 15*BW and 11*BW. (BW in pounds)

That's 2700 and 2000 for the moment. Vary as thus:

2700, 2700, 2700, 2000, 2000, 2000...

If you feel your metabolism is healthy, then do this each week:

2700, 2000, 2000, 2000, 2700, 2000, 2000

Yes, macronutrients do count. Slow-digesting carbs with protein up until noon, then protein with fats (especially the good fats) until a few hours till bed.

Some say breakfast should be the largest meal, but I think the study providing the foundation for this claim is ill-done, but try it.
