Weight lifting has NOT been proven to stunt growth unless you injure your neck or spine in the process...so bad form could contribute, but regular lifting with proper form will not stunt your growth. I used to think the same thing because all of my friends that are ripped happen to be short, then i met their parents :P Again, its all genetics, as>>186700 said. As for running, never heard anything of it stunting your growth, most runners i know are tall but thin as hell (even the cross country runners)
