Your diet is simply what and how you eat. When a person decides they want to start losing weight, they aren't "starting" a diet, they're changing the diet they already have. It's just easier for us to use the word diet as a verb or to imply we're eating less, but if you're going to try and define the word like that site did, you need to realize what you're talking about.
