Dear my beloved /fit/,

I have lurked quite extensively on this board for the past few months and I'm working on increasing my stamina during runnning. I have bad asthma and as such during the summer months if I start to run outside I start to die. So I've taken to going to my local gym. To ease up on my knees until I slim down more, I 'run' on the elliptical. Unfortunately I've noticed that after 30 mins or so on it, my outer most toes on both feet go numb. I straightened and adjusted my laces and have even bought new shoes and yet my problem still persists.

What does /fit/ think of this oddity and what do you think I can do to fix it? Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

How tight are you lacing? Too tight will cut off circulation. Are you sure your old and new shoes are the correct fit? Your feet are probably getting swollen and might not have enough room to expand. How well are you stretching your tibialis anterior and calves? They might just be getting really tight.

Just a few thoughts

do it without shoes if it's ok with the gym.
Ask them.
I train barefoot all the time.

My new shoes should definately be the right fit. And I normally let the laces be as loose as possible.

I'm not sure I'd want to walking around barefoot at this gym. Kinda unsanitary. I'd rather have numb toes than warty feet.

hey op,

I had the same problem as you. What I do every 3-4 min while running i move my toes on the foot that goes numb. Curling your toes, wiggling them etc... increases the blood flow to them and it seem to have stopped the numbness.

I ran 7 miles yesterday and didn't have any problems.

i had same problem. i think it was not enough circulation to the toes. i just wiggle em every little bit and i've had no problem.
