HIIT Noob Anonymous
Hey /fit/ I currently about 20 pounds overweight and am trying to do HIIT on an elliptical trainer (I heard somewhere it's not as good for your joints to run if youre overweight).

My problem, however, is endurance. After a several reps I am out of breath and my saliva is so gross (i gotta rinse my mouth out it feels sticky and dry (if thats possible)). This is what my workout typically looks like:
Regular pace (65rpm) for 5min.
Fast pace (105rpm) for 30sec. Reg pace for 1min.
I do that for 10 min total.
then 5min regular pace.

I'm trying to do this 3 times a week. Been doing so for 2 weeks so far. Is this okay for a person that is not fit yet?

pic related, I have similar chubbiness.

00:00: Bike 10 minutes at a steady, even pace. Don't tire yourself out.
10:00: At the 10 minute mark, push it harder for about a minute.
11:00: Slow down and keep steady for two minutes.
13:00: Push it again. If you have the energy to go all out, do it. If not, just keep an increased pace.
14:00: Slow it down. Even out your pace for two minutes.
16:00: Increased pace again.
17:00: 2 minutes normal pace again.
19:00: All out max effort for 1 minute.
20:00: End.

What I do is bike regular pace for 10 min,go full force for 30 sec, regular speed for 10 min, full speed for 30 sec, then once more, for a total of 30 minutes. White loose shirts end up being more like plastic wrap and i lost 3lb a week for about 6 months doing this, so my calculations say that it's a pretty good idea. Protip: If you can stand when you get off the bike, you're not trying hard enough.

can anyone vouch for this guy's routine?

did you change your eating habits too? Or do you believe that most of the weight loss was from the actual biking.

I had changed my diet from "gallon of ice cream every 2 days and candy and chips out the ass while playing world of warcraft" to mostly whole grain breads/lean meats etc about a month prior, and I didn't see any results until I started busting my balls on that damned bike, and when I got sick last winter and stopped working out for a couple months I stopped losing weight, even though I kept my same diet. Also, I did some lifting (mostly body weight and free weight shit, no SQUATZ) that probably helped.
