I know you can't do spot reducing and the "water in a lake" analogy but surely there must be a way to get rid of moobs.
They're not terrible but I'd like to tighten up my chest.

Any help, please?

replacing the fat with muscle would help - dips, incline/decline bench, straight bench..

diet and cardio

and don't expect overnight results

there's no magical formula to get rid of 'moobs' as long as you eat right and exercise you're body will naturally get rid of them as time goes by

That's a common myth that fat can turn into muscle, its completely false, no matter how much you work your muscle groups it will always stay separately from your layer of fat that covers it

Sorry, I'm a complete newbie in terms of exercise, I'm not familiar with those terms.

I'm not one of those people who expect overnight changes but I already feel as if I've made a difference. :)
I know losing fat would improve it but I'd like to develop the muscles there for better definition.

It's easier to gain muscle than it is to lose fat, i would prioritize lowering ur fat percentage, otherwise if you bulk up with too much fat you'll get even more larger

"It's easier to gain muscle than it is to lose fat"
wtf? No way. You can lose 2lbs of fat each week with diet and exercise. With proper diet and weight lifting the best u can do with muscle gain is 1-2lbs a month. Its easier to grab an apple on the way out of work than to sit down and eat 6 eggs and a bowl of oatmeal. Ill take trying to lose weight over trying to gain weight any day.

In that case:

Will help.

It seems really overwhelming at first but it works as a very good /fit/tionary.

The problem I have with the water in the lake analogy (which I understand is a simplification for idiots, but even so) is that to my understanding, fat is stored in a fixed amount of cells, and these cells grow, so it would be more akin to draining water balloons in a waterballoon filled lake.

Can someone explain to me in a non-dumbed down way why spot reduction doesn't work? It would make sense to me that energy to fuel an action would come from the closest source, obviously it doesn't, but I still want to wrap my mind around this so I can know why it doesn't work.

Working a certain area doesn't work fat away from that area, it only exercises the muscles.

muscles get worked, they get their energy from the bloodstream which circulates very quickly through the body... when you are burning fat, it comes from allover.

i actually saw a study that said exercising a specific area did reduce fat in that area more then it did in people who didn't specifically work that area, but the difference was so small it would be impossible to see a difference it was something like .008% more or something

so if you have a man-tit problem that persists even after you lose weight, doing a lot of chest exercises over the course of SEVERAL YEARS it might help to some tiny degree, but unlikely
