Exercise Advice Anonymous
Hey /fit/, I need your advice and opinions on something.

I'm 18, computer tanned, and I sound like a tool. Virgin, obviously. I'm sociable, somewhat charismatic, and not bad looking, but I have no muscle. I have no fat either, I'm basically skin and bones.

So my question is this. I need an exercise regimen to help build up some muscle (not looking for bulk per se, but actual abs/pecs/whatever would be nice). I don't need to do fat/calorie burning exercises (no matter how many carbs I eat and how little I work out, I stay a stick figure...). I have access to a full athletic center (go being a collegefag), but don't know what to do. The only athletic activity I currently do regularly is yoga and lots of walking. I have a bad back so anything that would stress my back out is unacceptable. Please halp.

i'm imagining a typical cs major so you probably have bad posture too. do lots of bench pressing, jog a lot outside to work up a tan, down protein shakes and of course squatz

Start a light weight regimen, with 8-12 reps and about 3 sets each. Then ease into doing more, but don't overstress. You're an ectomorphic body type so you're naturally skinny. You need to eat more protein.

If you want muscle, pick up weights. It's simple. They don't get bigger from cardio or yoga. Go to your college gym and talk to someone there, I'm sure tons of veterans would be happy to help you out, especially since you're stroking their egos by asking for THEIR help.

But even if you're too afraid to make new friends there, just experiment on the machines. Find out how much weight you can handle for a set of 10 reps. Make sure it stresses you, but make sure it isn't straining you. Keep doing this until it gets easier, then increase the weight.

Just get out there and do it. You'll get more experienced with it in time and make friends with other gym rats who will probably enjoy helping you plan out workouts.

Either that or stay skinny and get a sex change. Or be happy with your body and leave it.

Dead on. CS/Music double major. My posture is terrible. Also, I can't tan, much as I want to; I've tried in the past, but I always end up burning instead. I have very naturally fair skin.

More protein, light weight regimen. I can do that.

I've always been very nervous as far as asking people at the gym for exercise help, since I keep being afraid of getting laughed at for being a scrawny 95 lb. (well, 130 lb., but I'm 6 feet tall) weakling. But if it strokes their egos, then that's reassuring. I'll probably go in and try and figure something out tomorrow; the school year is almost over but I've got basically nothing for finals week so I could get some exercise in then (and continue it over the summer at home).

Thanks all for your help. I'm completely clueless as to the world of fitness, and this has been most enlightening.

take the tanning in small doses and increase from there, and start when ya aren't burnt
