ok, fit, this is the preliminaries for my fitness project.

first, basic stats: 22 years old, male, 6'2" (~187 cm), 260 lbs at last weigh-in.

other details: I'm in the process of quitting smoking (I've gotten down to smoking 1/8th of what I used to- 5 a day instead of 40 a day), I should be all the way quit by the end of this month.

for exercise, I get considerably more than the average american, simply because I don't live in america. on any given day, I'll probably walk 2 miles and get a sustained 20 minutes or more of some type of cardio activity (people that say that work doesn't count as exercise have never had physical jobs). given that I live in thailand, the combination of this PLUS the fact that natural/healthy food here is cheaper than the over-processed shit I used to live on, I'm already doing quite well- when I first moved here, I weighed in at 320 pounds, so that's a 60 pound drop already.

also for exercise, I intermittently do anaerobic workouts, primarily upper body. by intermittently, I mean maybe two-three times a week, with moderate weights.

my goals, for the end of this year, are to get down to somewhere in the 220 range (as recommended by a physician as being the ideal weight for someone of my body type), increase my physical endurence exponentially to the point where I can run 7 miles at a stretch and not die from it, and to basically get myself in shape and deal with all the little physical problems I have in the process.

also: I want to get rid of man-boobies, but that's kind of a side-issue.

I need to vastly increase my physical endurence: the quitting smoking is a big part of that, but it's only a very basic first step. what I need from you guys is some info on how to get into running without injuring myself so that I have to stop. I'm not built as a runner, keep this in mind, but I desperately miss it, it was one of the higher points of my childhood and I want to be able to do it again at length. the diet thing I'm not worried about at the moment- I get more vegetables than probably any non-vegetarian here, lower carb intake/higher fiber intake, my protein intake is balanced out at the moment. the one bad point is I also drink a lot of sweet things, primarily sweetened green tea (oishii brand, if anybody knows it).

picture related, me at my most unflattering.

So, what you need to do is keep at it.. Already seeing results, so keep it up. Do some more cardio, cut out the sweet shit. Also, start counting calories.

Count calories, drink only water (skim milk too if you need calcium), and definitely get a good aerobic workout of at least 20 mins per day.
