Ok /fit/, I've been running 4-6 times a week for 3 or 4 weeks now. I just go straight from my house to a nature trail connected to my neighborhood. It's a 4.3 mile route, and I tend to move at a brisk pace for a few minutes, then walk for a stretch until my lungs stop heaving, then repeat. I am not a fatass, but not a muscular German cyborg either, still I feel like I am not really pushing myself hard enough, and am not seeing as much of an increase in endurance as I would like. People say you should take a day or two off as well so your muscles can rebuild, but about 4 or 5 hours after my run I feel fine again and don't have muscle failure or anything, so this makes me want to just go more often. As I type this I feel like a dumbass because I know you are already just going to tell me to run faster or harder or cut back on my walking, but I can't sustain a hard pace for 4 miles yet.

Pic related, these are the shoes I run in, I'm trying the whole barefoot fad out, these are supposed to be good for forcing your feet to toughen up and many traceurs swear by them.

The best part about barefoot running is that by doing it, you won't be running for long. Enjoy your destroyed knees and collapsed arches.

You wouldn't lift weights without correct form, so why do people assume they can just go out running without worrying about correct technique. Google "biomechanics of running" and "barefoot running" to understand how to change your gait so you won't destroy your joints. People running in shoes typically run heel-to-toe, people who run bare foot or with a shoe like Vibram Fivefingers run where their ball of the foot and heel hit the ground at the same time. I don't want to get into a further technical analysis, so just do the google search.

u need a normal running shoes like mizuno, nike, addidas etc. long-mid distance one.
i once got a severe bone fissure(or fracture, whatever its called right in engl) because of a shitty shoes( pretty expensive tho, which claimed to be "running shoes", nike was it i think...)
this guy>>202775says all right, only thing i might add that even if u cant run nomore, dont start walking, instead just procceed running with the walking speed, and when u l feel rested speed up

u dont fcken need to learn technique to run properly, if running regullary ur body will adjust itself. thats of course if u dont run once a month...

op here, I'm not worried about shoes, I'm changing to a midfoot-strike, I've done the research, my joints are fine. Thanks for the advice about slowing down at the beginning so I can last longer though I mean I guess it's common sense.

This is probably the most ignorant post I've had the displeasure of reading on /fit/.

I hate you. There is actually a reduction in the impact your knee takes when you run barefoot and change your gait. Stop talking out of your ass.
