I can understand all of the animosity to fat adults and college students, but up until early to mid high school, the blame is on the parents. I've been through that. When I was younger, about maybe 8, I was a borderline dangerously skinny little boy, so my mom started feeding me extra food. She used to cry that I was so skinny. A few years later, I started getting heavier, and heavier... I'm 20 years old now, and finally starting to lose weight now that I'm at school and away from home. You need to experience it to understand what it's like to have people almost force food into you. They don't literally force it, but it's more like verbal abuse if you don't clean your enormous plate, or you let some snacks expire and be thrown away.
I came home from college this semster at 190 which is down from 240 last fall, and my mom said I was too skinny.
