dear /fit/,

i'm a fatty, and i gradually started to run/exercise, and i was kinda following http://running.about.com/od/getstartedwithrunning/ht/getstarted.htm as a guide. I added a week of walking for four and running for three, which i was doing up to yesterday

it's been good so far, and i've noticed great improvement, and the fuckin first week was hard for me, but yesterday during my running, during the second section of running, i noticed a sharp pain in my left chest. Not a burn pain.

then today when i went 4 mins of running and 3 walking, the pain came back 15 seconds after i started runnning, and stayed, and i could only do 3 rotations, instead of the planned four. Once i stopped running the pain lifted and i went on to lifting, without the same pain returning.

should i stop exercising and see a doctor asap? or do it next week after i move

pic kinda related

see your doctor, but don't panic and run to the hospital. i've done that and found out that many ppl do it only to find out it's a normal pain. heh, it could be a number of things. you may be pushing yourself too hard.

im really not even jogging that fast tho, prolly 5 miles an hour

so should i just continue through the pain until i can get to my doctor?

for us fatties 5 mphs is quite a bit. slow it down to about 2 - 2.5 until you can see the doctor.

I get that too, right in the upper left. It feels like someone is stabbing me with a hot knife. When it does happen though, I just speed up on the treadmill (crank the dial to the max…so 11.5 mph) until the pain goes away.

It's my way of telling my body that its protests will only result in more work.

Are you worn out/breathing heavy when this happens? Could be just normal pain from work-out. Or it could be aids.

I don't have any advice really, I am quite fit and I get this in the right side of my chest when doing HIIT sometimes.

Just wanted to say good job on starting an exercise routine though :)

well im back from my run, and i got the same pain again, but jogging just a bit slower made it go away! i was amazed and i went for an extra 7 minutes. i felt real good. im still gonna go to the doctor, just not as urgently

thanks for the advice, guys

Hmm, OP are you talking about stitches? (Pain in the diaphragm)
>> JerseyJackass !TwoDwkW3bI
no im pretty sure im not its a very high up pain in my chest/lower shoulder
>> JerseyJackass !TwoDwkW3bI
its a dense, intense pain, not a sharp pain like stitches

Go check with a doctor to see if its something major. i used to get the same thing deep pinching intense pain on my left side of my ribcage. My Doctor said it was porbably small muscles cramping due to the impact shaking my ribs. Running on Grass helped a bit with that.
