Also just working on holding your breath can help you, I find if I spend a lot of time in the pool (like over the summer) I can hold my breath longer by the end of the summer. And if you're worried about sheer volume of breath, you could work on diaphragmatic breathing, if you don't do it already. Some Martial Arts teach it for meditation, and people who take Vocal or Speech lessons (usually for Theatrical purposes) learn to do it as well.
