sup /fit/

I am from this moment on going to abandon all other liquid other than water. After a life time of excess alcohol, coffee, tea, soft drinks. Only water shall now pass my lips.

I was told for gentlemen of my persuasion 4 ltrs of water a day will do to flush out my insides, dropping down to 3 ltrs a day after a month or so.

But then my asshole friends fitness instructor boyfriend said

"no way bro, drinking that much water a day will damage your insides, no more than 2ltr"

so now i'm confused. Is it ok to drink 4 ltrs of water a day? And are there any long term ill effects from doing so?

ill effects from drinking pure h20? Not unless you drink like 15 / 20 ltres in a day, which will kill you stone fucking dead so dont ever drink that much.

4 litres is fine, if not a bit excessive, but it wont kill you.

Dude, don't worry about an amount.
Just drink water when you're thirsty and make sure you keep a bottle close by when you're working out.
Why is everybody so anal about an amount...? Geez.

He's a complete fucking idiot. You lose about a liter of water in a good hour of working out, and that's just one houe out of 24.

Obviously it differs from individual to individual exactly how much water you need, but drinking water only starts to get bad for you when you chug a lot at once.

I'd say aim for about 1-1.5 gallons, which is about 4-6 liters.

This may be a stupid question and i'm not the op, but what are the benefits of drinking water? What positive effects does it have on your body?
>> Anonymous
I don't think you ever need to drink more than 2ltrs a day, otherwise all you'll be doing is pissing a whole lot more.

Sure drink after exercise to regain what you lost as well as 2ltrs if you do that, but 2ltrs is fine and would do exactly the same as 4ltrs as far as I know.

Cleans out the inside of your body removing harmful toxins, and does not have any harmful toxins in like carbonated drinks do

Like I said last night:
Every living thing needs water. Stop arguing with nature.
Blood may be pumping your body, but your entire body needs water like a car needs gas. You need to drink it to replenish your body after it sweats, even if you're not working out.

your body is composed of more then 80% of water, water is required in every bodily function. your body naturally loses water, so you it must be replenished or else you will die,

Does drinking water help soften stools?

Athletes should be drinking 6+ lit everyday

theres no set amount of water you should have a day, theres many variables and factors that have to be taken into account. Figure out about yourself when your going to become thirsty, and drink before that happens

.66 of body weight

with this number, you can never go wrong. no more than 2 quarts per hour when active, 1 quart per hour when inactive.
>> Anonymous
If you drink exactly 14 pints of water you will die. More than that, you'll be fine. Less, you'll be fine.
>> Anonymous
Woops, 14 liters it might be.

right forgot to mention it's ounces for .66 of body weight, so convert it after that accordingly

4 Liters of water is perfectly safe. A normal, healthy person not taking any medication is at almost no risk of any ill effects from over-consumption of water. Your body can excrete 1 liter per hour without strain, and it takes a significant excess over this to actually put you in danger. You're really only at significant risk if you are taking an anti-diuretic, or under extreme heat/exertion stress (eg, actually running at that moment in a marathon). A person without a risk factor would need to consume multiple gallons in a very short time period to be in danger.

Anecdotally, I personally drink a gallon a day, going up to two a day while cutting. I'm still alive and yelling at people on the internets.

I swear, it's as if people heard there was something called "water toxicity", and then did absolutely no further research, instead just deciding to make up their own facts as they went along.

The ONLY way you can drink too much water is if you do NOT urinate. there is not an unsafe amount.

fucking idiots.
>> Anonymous
>>18581
false.

if you drinking more than your body can urinate, or if youve been sweating bucket loads for a long period of time, plain water can kill you.
>> Anonymous
the proper amount for a normal person to drink is half your bodyweight in ounces a day.

straight from the chiropractors/ sports medicine majors mouth.

FDA recommendation
>> Anonymous
that's contradictory, meanwhile backing what i said. If you piss normally you're fine.
If you sweat you need to replenish the water you lose.

You can excrete 1L of water per hour. You can safely drink three or four times that before any ill effects. Sure, it's POSSIBLE, but it's really not probable.
>> Anonymous
>>18592
it usually only happens in extreme circumstances where a person would normally stop drinking water due to the pain and discomfort.
>> Anonymous
The body takes up water from food we eat too, so saying 4 ltrs a day is fine you can't just add 4 ltrs of drinking water in excess to the other sources.
>> Anonymous
>>18593

It usually happens, as I wrote above, when a person is taking, knowingly or unknowingly, and anti-diuretic, or engaging in an extreme endurance sport.

Drinking water is overrated. Drinking some is fine, but no one seems to realise "Oh hai, I'm actually consuming a lot of my daily water intake through the food I eat."

As I'm a Britfag no one probably saw the documentary about this. Two women, one drank 4 litres of water a day, the other none. Their overall well-being/moisture/nutritional/whatever values came out the same.

TL;DR : 2 ltrs is fine, stop being so freaking anal.

Also, you can die from drinking too much water. I'm not saying that's the case here at all, but you can drown when your cells become overloaded with liquid.

Richard Hammond did the same test, he went two or 3 days without drinking anything at all and his health was fine.
The conclusion is you only need to drink water when you are thirsty, that is it.

you're forgetting 80% of mis/fit/s have extremely fucked up diets where you only eat 1~3 kinds of food everyday

or eggs
