I've got a bit of a gut that needs to be lost, and I've restricted my diet to whole foods albeit lots of it, several times throughout the day.

I started a strength training program, should I just focus on getting myself strong and adding some muscle first... Or should I balance both the strength training and cardio at the same time?

focus on one or the other

getting the muscle first will help you reach your final goal faster... but it won't be as pretty

/fit/ will tell you bulk up with muscle first, then cut your diet down to about 1800-2000 calories

but if youre a complete noob to lifting or exercise as a whole, its possible to lose fat AND gain muscle (for a time at least)

It's stupid to think that you first have to life and then when you've gained the muscle you can do cardio, just have 3 days of cardio a week which will in no way effect you weight training.

no.

cardio puts you in a caloric deficit
muscle doesn't grow unless you've got a caloric surplus
they're counterproductive to each other

What kind of cardio do you guys suggest?
I hear people saying more then 30 minutes of cardio will break down muscle, but I'm thinking this is more of a concern for bodybuilders.

Or will I just burn off pounds of hard earned muscle that way?

Your saying it won't be as pretty because? I will get fatter then I already am?

>>418817
More or less a noob, I have good form and do half decent weight, but up until now I didn't have a proper training program.

right. But then when you want to cut it will be faster and easier because your muscle boosts your metabolism.

This is basically what I heard, but if I'm busting my ass on weights, even if I do cardio, yet eat like a beast... Won't I get gains, or will I burn out faster?

yes. But then why bother with cardio at all?
At the end of the day you're either going to lose weight or gain it.

Well I do want to be /fit/, right now I'm not enrolled in any sports so I do stronglifts to get my strength up to something respectable.

I was doing HIIT before I got into stronglifts on Tuesdays and Thursdays, basically full on sprints for a bit more then 100 yards, then a very light jog for 100 yards, and I did that maybe 4-6 times depending on how much fuel I had in the tank.

But I can't do that shit anymore with stronglifts because I don't want to mess up my recuperation, and I couldn't do true HIIT anyways after serious stronglifting.

ITT morons who have never ran track before, I lift weights and run track for the univercity I run 5 times a week and lift weights 3 times a week. Learn 2 eating.

and that's why you're a weak bitch that can only bench 155

I only bench 155 because I'm not stupid and I bench by % I only do 70%. How about you learn to lift.
