sup /fit/

I'm gonna try these tonight.
Any tips so I don't seem liek a complete newfag when I do them?
>> Anonymous
look for the vids on crossfit.com to see exactly how they do them so you don't accidentally yourself into the ground
>> gay
you will not look like a newfag because most likely you're the only one doing it at your gym

and also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TlbDQUWs0s

use bumper plates if you can. Iron plates are fucking loud.
>> Anonymous
they're fuckin hard, dude. I tried them with a sandbag and failed miserably. Start off with just the bar to perfect your form then work your way up slowly to a manageable weight. And if you can, get someone who knows how to do them to help you. After my sandbag experience, I'm never gonna try them again without the help of some coach.
>> Anonymous
Is OP wearing glasses? hahaha, those exercises will not work out your eyes faggot.
>> Anonymous
You're gonna look like an idiot, I guarantee.

Read the section on it in rippetoe's SS.

check this vid out too:

back from the gym
shit was so cash

I'm not sure about my form though. But I think I had it about right.
Better than the really buff guy doing more than twice my weight with shit form (reverse curl action) and 10 minute breaks in between sets

listen dude, you hsouldnt even worry about anything more than the bar right now. you can seriously fuck your body up without proper supervision. if i were you, i'd scrap these until you are under direct supervision. Olympic lifts are like plyometric - you shouldn't use them unless you have proper training and really have a use for them....they're not really a "fitness" exercises...
>> Anonymous
>>472310
true, I did a whole bunch of sets with just the bar, starting with hang cleans and then doing power cleans. At the end I added 10lbs just to see if it was any different.

There wasn't a personal trainer around or I would have asked him about my form. Next time I will.
>> Anonymous
>>472310
Not OP, but aren't cleans in SS, and isn't that meant to be a "from the ground up" training routine for newfags and kids?
>> Anonymous
>>472345

he will probably tell you head to the power rack and do some curls
>> Anonymous
>>472349
listen to this guy
>>472345
trainers are usually people that look good and know how to tell other people what they want to hear. you can become a trainer for 100 bucks and by taking an online test. you're best bet is if you really want to learn olympic lifting then take it up as a legitimate endeavor and learn how to do it properly from proper sources. don't take it up for fitness purposes, it's too complicated and carries too much of a danger for injury.
>> Anonymous
Fuck, I learned doing these by myself. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Quit being such cautious pussies.
>> Anonymous
>>472355
lol yeah but how much can you do? I doubt you're an olympic lifter. probably some pussy who throws the weight around and think 185 is an amazing weight. way to impress the curl fags at the gym. quit trying to sound like you accomplished something so great. gtfo of here with this faggot ass shit
>> Anonymous
>>472357
no reason to act so hurt. True, I can't do olympic magnitude weights, but just because you can't lift astronomical numbers doesn't mean you shouldn't do them.

I do lighter sets of prclns before i squat as a warm up, mainly because I front squat and have to clean the weight into position. Self taught, no injuries so far, 225 front sq. However i would like to try some oly shoes and see the difference they make.
>> Anonymous
>>472357
>I can't do Oly lifts because I'm a basement-dwelling /fit/ troll.
>> Anonymous
>>472361
lol sure, just means your bastardizing them, kinda like people who do plyometrics i.e. what they call hopscotch
>> Anonymous
>>472371
yeah sorry, god forbid anyone have fun in the gym. Sorry, gods of /fit/.
>> Anonymous
>>472376
you know who else has fun in the gym? People curling in the squat rack and people doing quater squats and people trying to brag about a 225 assisted bench press in the smith machine.

have fun being a joke to anyone that takes lifting seriously. there is no happy medium in weight lifting. you either lift for fitness or you lift for legit purposes. you can't brag about a max curl and you can't casually t hrow around olympic weightlifting workouts.

Hey, /fit/.

I'm 6'4". How does height affect your ability to lift heavy-ass weights? I'd expect shorter guys would be better at it, but how much more worse off are taller guys?

www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGQfTgqQBok

Link pretty fuckin' related, it's Frank Yang. This man is my inspiration to start working out and get fit (and if it's not an unreasonable goal, train the Oly lifts too. I doubt I'd be able to be competitive, though.)

cleans are serious shit

>but how much more worse off are taller guys
facepalm.jpg
Do you know what a lever is?
That's basically what your arm is.
The taller you are, the longer your arms are (usually) and the more you can curl.

But, this is the same for other exercises too.
>> Anonymous
>>472381
shorter heigh = less range of motion but less space to put on muscle so that could also = not as strong in the long run. obviously a 5'4 guy can be strong but he just doesn't have the possibility to be as strong as say someoen 6'5 does.

Thanks for the responses, I guess that makes sense. That post was meant to be a new thread, so I'll delete it now.

Yeah because getting stronger isn't fun at all.

damn i thought /fit/ was supposed to be all about shattering that reatarded gym mentality who cares what the others think? Nobody in the gym cares what you think and you shouldn't fucking care what they think of you. It is a fucking gym not a fucking high school. I pay them to work out. Who is in charge of making gym rules? The biggest dumbest dude in the gym right cause he is the one that is there the most/longest duration? I still freak out everytime i hear somebody laugh in the gym i know they aren't laughing at me but that is just the insanity that is people and the self-consciousness is hard to fucking break. Don't go and make it worse assholes. I for one think we should all be wearing fucking /fit/ t-shirts to the gym so anytime we go there we will see each other and automatically know we have a spotter and shit like that somebody who is willing to help. I'm sick of the you wanna know how to work out oh that'll be 20$ an hour mentality of the fucking world. and when are we going to get some fucking protein isolate for like 5$ a pound in the fucking grocery store? Are all of the grocery store chains retarded? We buy the fucking cottage cheese, cheese, milk why can't we get the fucking good whey for cheap directly from them they obviously have a good working relationship with the fucking producers fucking sick of the bullshit the "industry" puts down on us.....oh and what is up with the fucking bankers hours on saturday and sunday THE FUCKING GYM SHOULD BE FUCKING OPEN LATE ON THE FUCKING WEEKEND WE ALL LIVE A FUCKING 24 HOUR FUCKING LIFESTYLE NOW AND FOR SOME OF US OUR WEEKEND IS FUCKING TUE AND WED NOT SAT AND SUN.

>>472393

wait, what? that would make sense if your bicep muscle attached behind your elbow.

As fara s I know, considering your forearm as the lever, the fulcrum of your elbow is behind the point where the muscle attaches to your forearm. This means an equal weight is exerting more torque that the bicep has to pull against for a person with longer arms than shorter arms.
>> Anonymous
Don't even try them. You will look like a complete newfag to anyone who knows anything about Olympic lifts.

FYI the second picture in OP's pic is just horrible form. The bar is like a foot and a half away from his body.

>>472059

Good vid.

Too lazy to type any advice here.. Google.

so a shorter person can lift more weight easily but it is basically less effective because a long arm lifting the same weight as a shorter arm is actually stronger because it is traveling a greater distance.....some shit like that like if you took a short person who could curl 100 lbs and a tall person who could curl 100 pounds and then put a rod in the short persons hands with a 100 pound weight at the same distance from his shoulder as the taller guy he would have to be able to lift far more than 100lbs to be able to curl it...........

/fit/ T-shirts. That would be fucking awesome

Don't do anything more than the bar until you are 100% sure you have near perfect form. I use to train with the Sharks strength coach and the guy wouldn't let me touch weights for a long time. When I first started I had trouble doing 25's consistently. Its important to learn how to transition and be more explosive with the bar. Likewise start by learning how to do them properly from the hang. I've plateaued at 205
>> Anonymous
>>472760

I find it harder to do it with the bar, then with some decent poundage...is this due to shit form ?
>> Anonymous
Its better to learn power cleans from the top down. Get used to how the bar has to sit on your shoulders. Then the rest is cake. Also when jerking the bar up do not use your arms to jerk it, use your whole body.

ahHASHHAHAHH

i hate free weight-compatible people like you. i bet you've had an affinity with free weights from when you were birthed out of your mom's vagianer.

i personally am scared to death of free weights. i wish you'd come over and show me how to use free weights and give me a blowjob after our workout session.

/fit/ should be about providing computer nerds with the information they need to be /fit/ nerds.....I mean its just /fit/ no need to be anonymous in public it isn't fucking /b/ so why not t-shirts? If you go to the gym and you see somebody with a /fit/ shirt you have found a friend someone you know will spot you and shit....i mean your friends will help you ocassionally but as we all know it is really hard to find friends who are as dedicated....
>> Anonymous
I do these all the time. Bend at the knees, try to push your feet through the floor on the way up. Don't use your back. This is an EXPLOSIVE lift. Go fast, get em done, start sweating!
>> Anonymous
shirts should say Pro /Fit/....and it would be hilarious because we'd take the money we made and build a fucking whey factory and churn out isolate like crazy and charge like 5$ a pound for it and live like kings.....protein powder is a fucking scam that pisses me off. When is somebody going to do something about it rather than go with the flow and make mad whey profits.(or at least offer me a fucking cut damnit) Are the Grocery stores not pissed off about being cut out of half of the profits from the cheese that they sell and have been selling for years? What about the goverment subsidies milk farmers surely get? Are the Dairy farmers making bank off of whey? Who is getting rich here because somebody is?
