What're good exercises for building up your so-called 'core' muscles?

lift something heavy over your head. Also you should only do abs once a week. Abs are made in the kitchen not the gym.

When I said core muscles, I was thinking of the sort of stuff that Yoga is supposed to help you develop, you know, sort of supple strength?

Obviously the answer to that sort of thought'd be 'take up Yoga', but I figured there'd probably be someone on /fit/ who might know what i'm getting at.
