Push UP vs Bench Anonymous
Hey /fit/

At what point is it better to do push ups vs bench?

I am doing Starting Strength 5x5

My weak ass shit? Bench 135lbs Squat 205 Dead 245

I've heard just doing body weight exercises is good up to a point. Am I past that?

If you have an actual weight set, don't bother using pushups to build strength. They're alright for general conditioning, but a lot of people on here just do them because they don't have weights.

Lift as heavy as you can... and can't. And keep trying to lift what you cannot lift. Eventually you'll be able to, and that's the quickest route.

disregard that, I suck cocks

Lift what you can

Pushups will make it so you can lift your body weight. Any more pushups without added weight after that will give you SLOW twitch muscle, which is basically all endurance (think abdominal muscles, those are slow twitch).

You are born with slow twitch muscle fibers, and fast twitch muscle fibers, a set amount and the number of muscle fibers you have don't increase. You don't gain more or less throughout a life time(unless you lose a limb) They just get smaller or larger. Doing push-ups or anything won't "give you" slow twitch muscles, it will simply cause your muscle fibers whether they're slow or fast twitch muscle fibers to grow at a slower rate with out an increase in difficulty.

This anonymous is wrong, retarded, and spreading misinformation. I don't really care that he's doing that, but I don't want you to be misinformed.

Ever heard of putting a weight on your back as you do pushups? Works wonders.

Weight vests are great also.

Pushups are superior, your moving in a wider range of motion than the bench and working more muscles simultaneously.

Pushups too easy for you? Do inclines.
Incline pushups too easy for you? Do handstand pushups.
Handstand pushups too easy for you? Do regular pushups with a 50kg block of uranium on your shoulders.
