When I want to lose body fat, I focus more on legs, with deadlifts, squats, and leg presses. On days when I'm in a hurry, I'll do 30 minutes of cardio with some pullups.
Cardio burns calories while you do it at a rate of about 600cal/hour. So in an hour you could burn 600cal but after you stop, you rapidly go back to a normal metabolic rate.
Weight lifting can range from 400-800cal an hour, depending what you lift and how, and you will continue to burn calories for 45-60 minutes after
