Muscle. But if I wanted to use it for something? Anonymous
Dear /fit/.

I read lots of stuff about building muscle. But most of it about getting that muscle for aesthetical reasons.
Do the same rules apply if one would like to achieve a level of fitness that would prove profitable in preagricultural lifestyle.
Or postapocalyptic if you want to gaze upon the future. In before hyakuretsu ken.

Pic related,sort of.

If you want to have strength for real-world use, do exercises with real-world movement. For example, the military press, where you push barbells straight above your head. Squats, for strength in your legs when you need to jump.

Machine isolation exercises like the Pectoral Fly won't work. How often do you need to squeeze something with your arms fully extended?

Muscle is muscle. Ronnie Coleman (pic) uses like 250lb dumbbells to do chest press.

You don't get huge ass muscles by lifting light.

For 'postapocalyptic' situations, you'll want to focus on legs, back, then chest, shoulders, arms.

Lifting weights makes your muscles big, bigger muscles = more strength.

funny thing is, coleman (guy pictured), is also a full time cop and ex-powerlifter. the man is a freak. gotta love it. most of his training is big movements and he does heavy squats all damned day. he's the first body builder in a long time to get back to the sports roots; it began as something that powerlifters and weightlifters did in the off season, and bodybuilders used to be very strong as well as huge.

anyway, in either of your scenarios available nutrition is going to be the limiting factor so people will probably be relatively strong/strong for bodyweight ie more neurally efficient. like strength athletes are.

yes and no. it's not quite as direct as you make it out to be. but i got to go so go do your own research.

You would want lean muscles to do work with them, so bodybuilding alone will do you no good. Take a look at construction workers, movers etc. They dont have that bulgy look, but they have the power to carry heavy weights all freaking day long, not just deadlift them.
>> Anonymous
And after looking at them, you decide to become a construction worker for reaping the benefits?

Coleman is a steroid popping retard, and you clearly don't know the history of body building. Todays body builders are nothing like the golden age of Body Builders. Since about 1988, things have gone rapidly down hill.

Simple explanation for a simple question.

no, it is you who knows nothing about coleman!

seriously. according to mike quin coleman had a pro card before he even started on steroids. quin isn't the only guy to say this either. sure, coleman takes steroids, but so did franco and auhnold, so what's your point? he's also known for using less than a lot of other guys in the culture. what's more, his training still uses big joint movements as the rule rather that the exception. he regularly squats over 800lbs.

fixt.

Well he does look like a monster. And in those two ages it can't a good thing.

Many top bodybuilders were power-lifters in the beginning which helped them immensely in reaching their goal. Every "probodybuilder" takes steroids for reaching their goals in time but what's the difference between winners and losers? again it's not steroids but everything other than.

I doubt Coleman takes fewer steroids. Its all int the abs. Look at his waist line. See how big his waist is? Steroids and human growth hormone. It actually makes their internal organs grow, which pushes out their abdomens.

Look at every body builder pre-Dorian Yates to see "responsible" steroid use. Yes, a lot of them used it (Look how small Franco is now), but none of them pushed it to this disgusting level.

he uses a bunch now, sure. but it's commonly held that he started later and used less than most other pros.

in the end who fucking knows though.

If you want muscle for a specific purpose, gain it doing that purpose. No you won't look ripped; think about how marathon runners look.

tl;dr

Tips for fallout: MUSCLE REQUIRES VOLUME TO MAINTAIN. Volume means lifting a certain amount of tonnage a day to maintain the muscle (look at Arnold). Unless you want to be fucking eaten by ZOMBIES, you would do yourself a favor to train in a manner that doesn't provide muscle but rather trains the central nervous system. I could go into depth but would OP really care?

coleman is awesome. his mother cooks all his food for him, he's a full time cop and doesn't get any special time off to train; he does it before and after work. fucking legendary.

I didn't notice this smart gentlemen.

I love pavel's shit but torrent it. There are atleast five/six e-books out there for pirating. Read Power to the People! or atleast the first bit of it to understand the science behind it. Zombies may crave your brain more but hopefully by then you picked up running or can climb trees more effectively.

True Fact: Coleman has not been a cop for like 10 years.
