So...today I was in the middle of running, and my ankle hit a strange spot in the ground and twisted to the side.

I heard a pop, followed by a crack, and my foot went out from under me.

Pic unrelated.

I landed on my wrist, proceeded to hold my numb foot for an hour before I dragged myself upstairs to rest it.

I'm not in incredible pain, but I can barely walk on it, and when I move it to a certain side, oh God, it's terribly bad pain. My foot hurts, and it's all the way up my ankle, but it's not swelling up eight hours later.

I'm wondering what it could possibly be, because this is very unpleasant.

whatever you do, don't see a doctor or anything, that would be foolish

Truth. Doctors are quacks. Go see someone who can perform acupuncture. They'll fix it.

I can't really afford to see a doctor. I just turned 19 and now I need to start paying to see the doctor.

I don't want to go if it's just a sprain and him to charge me $200 just to look at my foot and go "lol there's nothing we can do"

OP makes me feel so glad to be a Canadian citizen where healthcare isn't run by corporate machines driven by denial of service and grossly inflated prices.

OP here.

I'm a glad American (Not so proud though, at this point in time considering our country is turning into shit), but...damn, at this point, you're right.

I'd move to Canada, but I'm not much for socialist countries.

Funny thing is...even if it was broken, they won't operate on me until I could come up with the money.

When a friend of mine's fingers were sliced off, he only had a couple thousand, and they actually had him choose the finger that'd be stitched back on.

I lol'd until I cried at "can't afford to see a doctor".

I'm drunk, so I'll help OP out.

R-I-C-E.

Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Put your foot up above your heart and ice the shit out of it for a few days. Hopefully it's just a sprain and it'll be good in a few days. Ice for 20-30 minutes every few hours.

/had an evans repair on my ankle. crutches suck.

I'd move to Canada, but as I said, I'm not going to a socialist country, since that's one step down from communism.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do that, but if it swells big time, I guess I'll be forced to see a doctor.

Lol @ bankruptcy.

lol at "socialist". Maybe look up what that means before you throw the term around.

Speaking of ice: don't just put an ice pack on it. Fill a bucket with 1/3 ice and then the rest with cold water. It'll hurt like a bitch, but it works.

/again with the evans repair. Think about buying a brace. $50 = cheaper than $5000.

Those are bad sounds. And that you can't walk on it immediately is a bad sign. You can usually walk gingerly on most sprains.

If not a sprain there are only a few options left, none of them are good.

1. Fracture or hairline fracture of one of the bones in your foot, ankle or lower leg.

2. One of those crazy bones is out of socket.

3. You tore a tendon or ligament. (Surgery)

4. Some combination of above.

The third is the worst, as it will not get better without surgery.

The bones can fuse back together naturally if you stay off of it for as long as possible or rig yourself up a splint.

If you need healthcare, there is an option, which you may/may not like.

Armed Services.

Thank you much! I really appreciate it. I'll pick up a brace tomorrow.

I wish I was in Canada/France right now, crap.

Ahh...shit...this makes me worry.

Thanks for the advice, I'll need to weigh my options.

Maybe I could buy health insurance and THEN go in...probably wouldn't work, though.

lol.

Booze talking again:

Evans repair fixes the ligament that you tear when you snap something while running. Don't worry about the doctor until you start having your ankle turn for no reason at all (i.e. rolling your ankle on the flat sidewalk when you're walking to the bus).

Get a brace, ice it, and either get on your parents insurance, find a job, or sign up for school insurance if its' too costly. Evans repair = $5k min.

FYI: You can live w/o surgery, you just need a really tight brace. I went 5 years before I went under the knife, but now it's way better than before.

Thanks for the advice.

I guess I could get on my parents' insurance. I'll look like a faggot, though...AH WELL.
