im a sad fuck who wallows in self pity.

several years ago a psychologist diagnosed me with some form of depression, im not 100% sure how accurate his diagnosis was but thats besides the point.

exercise helps a bit. i usually feel good afterwards and can look at my hot bod for a self esteem boost, but like>>442818said, it doesn't completely solve anything.

one hour of excercise is the same as taking an anti-depressant. it really worked for me and i have major depressive disorder.

If I'm depressed then any form of sustained exercise will automatically put me into a significantly better mood.

This is probably the worst way to research: asking an anonymous mostly nonserious forum as a source.

i believe it's very well documented that daily exercise is effective for regulating one's neurochemistry.

anecdotal evidence: i felt like shit all last week. last night i ran ~8k. now i feel like i want to stalk wild elk through the ruins of a future post-apocalyptic megalopolis.

it's pretty hard to argue with results like these. oh man i could just bench press 9 yaks right now.

I've been diagnosed with clinical depression.

I don't notice a huge difference in my overall mood/stability when I do get regular exercise, although going out for a run normally improves my mood for the next few hours unless I'm at a particularly low point before I run. Normally it's very difficult to have the will to exercise at all if I'm at a low point, though.

Meditate. Yeah, I know, it sounds like it's even a few notches up the pussyfaggot scale than depression but it really helped me pull through. Exercise and improving yourself physically is awesome and there's no substitute for it, but it's only going to help so much. Just give it a shot, anyway, it can't be any worse than playing MMORPGS and/or wanting to kill yourself all the time.

i used to be a competitive intercollegiate rugby player, and i had always been fit and playing sports at some level for most of my life. then a series of injuries unfortunately forced me to give up the sport that i love. this only was just one of many incidents that occured over the course of a couple of years that led be to being diagnosed with major depression, PTSD, and anxiety/panic disorder. These panic attacks gripped me for almost two years and this is something that i wouldnt wish on my worst enemy.

long story short, it was only as recently as march that i was still in the grips of my major depression and was suicidal. at this point i started making major life changes, including becoming physically fit again. After about a half of a year of hard training, i am perhaps as fit as I have ever been in my life. I am currently training for a marathon, and have been running competitively for a month now. Much of my mental health issues are gone, although i still do get depressed from time to time. although working out and running helps an incredible amount. it has been key in winning my mental health battle.

although its ancedotal my keys have been to stay fit and active physically, cut out negative people from my life, change the job that was a major stressor in my life, cut out alcohol entirely, get a regular sleep schedule....oh....and smoking weed helps too =)
