hey /fit/ (i posted this in the wrong place last time)I've been doing weight training on machines for a few weeks, mostly because free weights intimidate the shit out of me.I was just wondering, i'm planning to start free weights within the couple of days. does anyone have any advice for a freeweight noobie?P.S. is it absolutely necessary to have a spotter?
thats the thing, i go to the gym early in the morning, i'm there by 6, but i dont have anyone who will go with me at that hour, so i dont have a spotter.Does that mean i cant start free weights?
dont bench then
>>430309It means you probably shouldn't bench press. Other lifts, a fuckup just means you fall over. However judging by your fear, you might want to have someone to show you the ropes.
If you're lifting correctly, you don't need a spotter since you shouldn't be having trouble with the lifts.Since you're just starting, go you since this is available:http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=998224Buy the book if you can.
You shouldn't be lifting weights to total muscular failure anyways. So if you're on a bench, don't press over your limit (start small and work your way up) and don't go too far. It's about knowing your limits and pushing them, but not exceeding them to dangerous levels.
