The only actual mistake you can make is consuming more calories than you drop. Sure carbs play a role, but it's not that significant. I had significant weight loss by exercising two hours a day, high intensity, and eating a chicken sandwich, large fries and a diet coke from wendy's. I knew by the nutrition facts that the caloric content was under a thousand, giving me the same results as if I had forcefed myself salads. That's basically it. Work up a sweat you wouldn't normally, and eat less. No magic to it.
