sup /fit/,

long time lurker, first time poster.

I've completely changed my diet and outlook on fitness & life over the past year now. I went from 285 lbs down to 170 over the past 2 years by eating healthier and exercising.

I lost a bulk of that weight in the past 8 months, so now I am trying to shape my body.

I've been weight training for a little while now and I was wondering what is the best way when at rest to heal those sore muscles.

I find that my downtime between working out certain muscle groups is far too great as the pain is excruciating. Are there any supplements or even something I could buy over the counter to help the healing process along?

tl;dr: I want to be able to accomplish more every week at the gym, how do I help heal sore muscles?

Try a protein shake post workout, and eat more fish or take an omega 3 supplement.

take a recovery shower after working with barbells
3-5 minutes steaming hot
2-3 minutes freezing cold
and repeat 2-3 times until you feel better

get massages bi-weekly
massage yourself every 2-3 days with one of those rolling things (i use tiger tail)
take anti-inflammatory foods, onions/garlic/fish/omega-3 fish oil/anything high in omega-3 as oppose to omega-6 (which promotes inflammatory)
sleep 8-10 hours a day
if you find the pain unbearable then you might need to rest more, but if it's just sore then work through it

OP here, thanks for the tips. I take fish oil every other day for my omega 3 needs.

I liek soar mussels too, but not if it's going to slow me down.

I never considered massages and have been lax on taking my protein as of late. I will be sure to try all of the above mentioned things.
