Go to your library and check out a book on meditation.

You're still in your body, nothing is transcending.

Yes, OP. There is a course which is, in a nutshell, TM; they go to great pains to say it's a different system, of course, but really, it's *exactly* the same. The ONLY difference is that this course does not use individualized mantras. They spin a little legal wizardry (which probably won't hold up, if it has for this long)... And they give you TM with a standard, same-for-everybody mantra.

It's really wonderful.

I've got my binder full of materials sitting right here beside me. Good luck.

if you don't thing about anything you must be thinking about nothing, but nothing is a something so your thinking about something, but your not supposed to think about something so you think about how to think about nothing but thinking about how to think about nothing is thinking about something, so you think about how to not think about thinking about nothing, but thinking about how to not think about not thinking about nothing is something so you still are not thinking about anything

How to Meditate by Lawrence LeShan
>> Anonymous
sit on the floor
strighten your back and balance your head over your tail bone
breathe in and out slowly
follow the movement of your breath in and out with your hands
move them up your body when you breath out
down your body when you breathe in
continue until you feel very relaxed
move your hands to your knees and try to keep your mind as clear as you can

1. Sit upright on the floor.
2. Breathe naturally; focus on the split second between inhaling and exhaling.
3. Become completely at ease - relax, "transcend" the mental barriers which cloud or obstruct thought.
4. ????
5. Profit!

Progressive relaxation is a useful technique here. Focus on relaxing each muscle group in turn. Do this a few times and you'll be extremely calm.

TM is about as useful as homeopathy. Which is to say: not.

Go for just regular quiet time. Fuck the whole magical cloud-busting bullshit, it has more in common with scientology than with any real health benefit.

TL;DR
Meditation really is what it looks like. Just sitting around trying to clear your mind. The whole point of Zen is that you shouldn't have to learn it from someone else.
