Glutamine Anonymous
sup /fit/, what do you think of L-Glutamine?

The differing views I have gathered from the internets via google is
1) it's fucking pointless as a supplement
2) it's fucking great as a supplement, use it 4 times daily, FUCK YEAH SPOON THAT SHIT DOWN
3) it's useful, but only if you use more than x amount
4) it's useful but most protein powders already have enough of it so there's no need to buy it separately

I have actually bought some and it recommends a 1.9g dosage to be taken immediately after exercise. It does not mention what to mix it with (water? milk? juice?). I find that it mixes relatively well with water and is tasteless. Much confusion has ensued.

tl;dr - so /fit/, should I take L-Glutamine, and if so, how do I take it? I am currently doing the program from Rippetoe's Starting Strength 2nd edition and am taking tri-creatine malate and a mass gainer.

pic related, it's what i bought (it's an ausfailian brand).

OP -

Replace that waste of money (mass gainer) with ONE GALLON OF WHOLE MILK EVERY DAY LIKE IT SAYS IN THE BOOK YOU FOOL.

As far as L Glutamine. Generally its 3 servings a day, one when you wake up, one after the workout, one before you go to bed. It's good shit, but nothing that stretching, good fish oil, and ib-profen can't do.

OP here,

Due to feedback received here and elsewhere, I suspect this shit is of minimal utility. thanks>>332513for the link.

as i doubt it will do any harm to keep taking it, i'll finish this bottle of possible fail off and stick to milk, fish oil, whey and creatine.

>>332272
please elaborate on why 100% whey > 50% protein 50% carb. This is a genuine question, inform my ignorant mind please, or at least point me to a link.

>>332266
the feedback received from other mis/fit/s elsewhere has been interesting and well worth the delicious copypasta making.

in return for all your input mis/fits/, i give u tits (yes they're over 18)

no harm in finishing off the bottle. make sure you dont take it at the same time as creatine

If you kept on following the discussion, more scientific studies were posted and have shown that L-glutamine is effective at maintaining and repairing the immune system and is a viable fat burner. Maybe L-glutamine doesn't work the same way as creatine, but if you're like me and dozens of other people who get sick after intense workouts, it's a great supplement to have. And with the new studies showing that it helps with burning fat, its another reason to continue using it.

i take amino vital as a recovery drink and l-glutamine is in it as well as most of the other amino acids and vitamins and i notice much better recovery times.

I thought it worked pretty fckin good, but made me break out.

Long thread was long.
I stopped when the discussion devolved to "I suck off horses to get my protein intake. Yep, that is the most disgusting one yet, top that!!!

Upon further reading (up to page 4 of loooooooooong thread), the consensus is that it does not improve ATHLETIC performance, but is good for you in certain conditions, but is nonetheless considered poor value for money.

It's cheap as hell, most products sell for under $10 (US) and will get you a fair amount. All those bozos claiming its poor value for your money are retarded, if you can't stay healthy it's hard as hell to improve your athleticism. Like I said, some guys wish L-glutamine to be something it's not, like it was some kind of magic pill for muscle growth, hence all the disappointment when these studies came out. The original research was pointing to what I mentioned in my earlier post, but the big marketing machines stepped in and hyped everything out of proportion. Once the lab coats got their hands on some glutamine for testing, they simply disproved most of the supplement corporations' BS claims.

OP here, thanks for the insightful comments. Subsequent to brief perusal of the thread, I agree with both your evaluations.

The question is: after I consume the L-Glutamine I currently have, should I purchase more? In Ausfailia the 500g bottle pictured costs $55, a high price indeed for a working-to-pay-rent-and-board uni student.

I'm aware I can get it shipped from the US, and if I get it at US$10 a bottle, it will probably turn out cheaper than in Aus, even with shipping costs factored in.

I'm currently leaning towards yes, take it anyway, IF AND ONLY IF I can get it at a lower price.

Pic unrelated, not to mention you mis/fits/ probably been seen it over 9000 times. bitch needs to do SQUATZ but nevertheless I would hit it like the fist of an angry god. Just thought you had to know bra.
