I wouldn't do 5 sets of 5 on squats, then 5 sets of 5 on deadlifts, with a high percentage of my max. if i did that, i certainly wouldn't repeat it that same week, it's just bad programming and will quickly lead to stalling gains in strength. But sure, 5x5 squats and then a FEW intense sets of deadlifts is probably fine, especially for someone starting out.
