so the body, at most, is utilizing strictly blood borne glucose and just a bit of the liver's glycogen (after breaking it down into glucose), leaving all the tissue stores completely untapped
with high intensity work, dont think of it as 'what is used DURING the work period' but what is utilized during the next 24-36 hours, in terms of metabolic substrate utilization.
tl dr: the body has much in the terms of storage. the brain runs on glucose and glucose alone, but the body has a variety of ways to maintain that indefinately, even in a low carb (not necessarily ketogenic tho) environment
