What's all this HIIT stuff I keep hearing about?
What does it involve? How long until you see results? What are some good online resources for it?

Pic is one of the first image results for HIIT, lol.

High Intensity Interval Training.

Get on a stationary bike and warm up for a few minutes. Then go as hard as you can for 30 seconds. Then go easy for a minute and a half. Keep alternative between hard and easy like that until you can't do anymore. Then cool down.

It involves feeling like you're going to pass out or puke. Also involves feeling awesome after you're done.

I don't have one of those :(

I have heard that interval training like HIIT and Tabata were developed for athletes. Does /fit/ feel like one should work up to a certain level of athleticism before tackling interval training?

I fear I may not be a bad enough dude yet.

You can do it with any cardio exercise, the principle is the same.

No. The beauty is that it doesn't take very long to get a good workout. You might only be able to do a couple of reps at first, but it won't take long to build up.

Not good for losing weight then? :(

You should definitely have some kind of aerobic capacity. It's kind of difficult to give any guidelines.

Many studies have found that HIIT helps you lose as much as 3 times more fat than steady state cardio and you don't have to spend as much time exercising.

What other exercises would be good as HIIT exercises?

Would trampolining work (i.e. bouncing as hard as possible for 30 secs)?

The best exercises for HIIT are running, cycling, and jump rope, imho.

I'm fairly strong underneath the layer of blubber, and walk a fair bit. Would I be ok for this?
>> Anonymous
anyones ok for this, u dont have to do 10 fast 10 slow reps total u could end at 2-3 or 3-2 then cool off or something, even when u die after first fast rep its still better then not doing any. besides it saves u time, and when u keep it up results will follow soon enough.

I live in a tall apartment complex. Would running up the firewell stairs with this routine be effective HIIT training? 30 seconds sprinting up steps, not skipping them. Easy, but on pace step climbing for the next minute-minute half.
