First, eating 4-6 meals a day is not there to "confuse metabolism." It's there to ensure your body is getting a constant supply of proteins/carbs/etc to support your growth, because the body can only take a limited supply of each at any one time.
Second, "4-6 meals per day" is too vague. The meal set ups when you bulk and when you cut are completely different. The former has more protein as it is aimed to build muscle, while the latter just enough to maintain the muscle size and get rid of the fat via extensive cardiovascular exercise.
