Hey /fit/.

Tried tunning today. I ran for literately seconds and I felt this amazing pain in my left thight, one which I still feel now. Same thing happened a few days ago when I had to run for a bus, except it was on my right thigh on the side near the balls. What the hell is wrong with me? I don't usually run, I jump rope. But I didn't feel any pain in my thights up until that point.

I'm 5'8 218 and I really want to run as that seems better for burning than jumping rope.
Help.

did you stretch/warm up?

Don't expect to be like the captain of the Nigerian relay team right away

typically you have to ease yourself into these things try light jogging or pacing yourself. Get to a point where you can sustain this for whatever duration of time you want to be working out for.

dude, even though 5'8" 218 isnt extremely bad, start doing something else first. elliptical, rowing, cycling, something with a little less impact. when i see bigger people running it sucks because they dont know how much damage they're doing to their heart and knees especially by just deciding on a whim to start running, only to most likely give it up later on. good luck to you however.

Here's the problem for a lot of us beginner runners: We don't have the money nor any access to an elliptical. Hell, some of us don't even have bikes.

I did not stretch or warm up. I suppose that could be a problem. Do
you know any good stretches or warm up exercises I can do?

I can't even ride a fucking bike, nor am I going to try. There are people who have lost weight without ever touching a bike

tl;dr fuck you

this is perhaps the most important strecth to do before you go to run. I always do it while standing though.

good strecth for your calves is this: first stand straight, then bend over while keeping your legs straight. try to reach your toes with your fingers.

Hope this helps, you can try to find more using google.

If you have a weight problem and want to get into exercise, take up swimming first. It'll train your heart and other muscles and give you better endurance, but it's still a very low-impact sport (just make sure to stretch beforehand, or its unduly difficult in the beginning).

Chances are, also, that there's someplace near where you live that has free time for swimming, If not, you can probably find a place (say, public pool) that'll let you in for a small fee.
