Food doesn't taste good anymore... Anonymous
Since I started eating healthy, food is no longer enjoyable for me.

It is good that the fast food I used to eat no longer is what I crave, but geez, I want to taste something decent.

What do you guys eat day in and day out? What do you do to mix up or make your plain, lean meals (chicken breast, fish, turkey) and other stuff?

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD THESE.

I already do.

The thing is, I'm not sure if my tastebuds are permanently shot (all of the old, bad food I've eaten tastes like nothing or horrible now) or if there's some special way I'm not cooking that could be wonderful.

And I am a decent cook, but with cooking, the added ingredients for taste rarely are healthy, and I don't like that.

I'm pretty sure your tastebuds still like the same food. The thing is, your body has adjusted to not needing it, thus, you don't crave it. Now that you don't eat burgers, they taste unusual to you since I guess you're eating a bunch of boring crap. I mean cmon it's logic.

What do you eat?

red pepper and garlic are unhealthy?

It's just that nothing tastes pleasurable. You know how you eat something and you enjoy it? I don't get that anymore.

...But what I eat is baked Chicken Breast, baked Tilipia fish, extra lean turkey burgers, and steamed vegetables. Breakfast is Shredded Wheat 'n Bran mixed with Oatmeal; no milk.

I add those (along with basil, onion powder, curry) to a lot of meals already. No tasty response. :(

You know adding a little bit of salt or sugar to something won't kill you.

That's not me. I'm the OP. XD

I don't have problems with salt and sugar.

But adding salt and sugar to stuff like chicken breast wouldn't be good.

Why add salt? I'll add pepper but not salt.

it won't kill you

You are saying that you want to eat healthy but meat does not taste good. So what's the point? Meat is definitely NOT healthy. It encourages cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes, osteoporosis, adiposis, cardiovascular deseases etc.

So you say you don't eat much salt and sugar? Since when do you practise this? If you eat little sugar, salt, bad fats and junk food, then you should redevelop a good sense of tasting.

Taste sensitization.

Learn to appreciate the soft and subtle tastes of real food. Quit expecting your food to taste like heaven all the time. Food doesn't owe you wonderful tastes, but you owe your body food it can actually use.

Not all the time, but once out of four meals is not too much to ask.

I have the seem problem as OP. I've pretty much reduced my diet to protein shakes and a random carb load because of it. Eating just isn't enjoyable.

keep in mind that even if you're eating healthy, if you're not enjoying the food you are GOING TO BE DEPRESSED AND KILL YOURSELF.

STOP BEING SO EMO.

i eat reasonably healthy:

multigrain breads, cereals, pasta; all of my lunch meat sandwiches have lettuce, tomato, and cucumber; any spaghetti sauce i use is full of vegetables.

it sounds like you're trying way too hard to be SUPERHEALTHY.

you will be much happier and healthier if you allow yourself to eat foods you enjoy, but trying to find a closely related healthy alternative.

i go through a bag of chicken breasts almost every 1-2 weeks. but baked chicken (especially boneless, skinless) is about as tasty as licking your shoulder.

try experimenting with chicken tacos (cubed or use a fork to shred it); you can add avocado, lettuce, tomato, and lowfat cheese.

try grilling your chicken with salt, pepper, and season salt, cutting it up and throwing it in a salad topped with vinaigrette.

pick up a cookbook next time you're at the bookstore or turn on the food network next time you're watching television.

the more food you experiment with the more new flavors you will find you can enjoy without feeling guilty.

This is why spices and cooking were invented. (inb4 trolls, it's a figure of speech, fagets)

Chicken is never boring for me. Sometimes I make it with lemon and oregano, other times just salt, pepper, and lemon, and sometimes I'll make some spicy seasoning with chili powder, paprika, cumin, and whatever else I have on hand.

My favourite tuna combos:
tuna + salt + pepper + lemon
tuna + salt + pepper + lemon + olive oil + diced cabbage
tuna + mayo

Replace chicken with turkey and tuna with salmon and it works out the same.

Garlic goes with almost anything that isn't dessert.

EGGS. Try poached, hard-boiled, scrambled, omelettes, deviled, etc. If it's bland, ADD SALSA. Whenever I do them in the microwave I add salsa because it tastes like shit. Try different kinds of omelettes. Ever had a Greek omelette? Fill it up with chopped olives, onions, green peppers, diced or sliced tomatoes, oregano, and crumbled feta cheese. Just watch your cornhole.

Here are scrambled eggs in a way I've never seen before:

Salads. Mix it up. There are a ton of salads you can make, and tons of dressings you can buy or make yourself.

Salt worked for me until I got used to it.

Try to add toppings that you like... Cheese, for example.

Hah. When I was on a really healthy streak everything got incredibly sweet. I'd eat something like a yam and it'd taste overwhelmingly sweet. wtf?
Just go to a place like wholefoods and buy their junkfood.
