Dear /fit/

I am poor. Top Ramen fits my budget, but I'm worried about the health ramifications of only eating shit. I don't eat fast food (Even though its cheap as hell.)
Most health food is expensive as fuck. Any suggestions for yummy, cheap, healthy foods to prevent becoming a lardass?

15lb bag of brown rice is about 15 bucks. And that bag should last you quite some time.
Beans.
Chicken.
Canned tuna.
A big bag of oatmeal is also fairly inexpensive.
Banana's...................

You need to look harder, you silly sausage.

Chicken thighs go for like 99 cents per pound. 5 bucks gets like 12 thighs

frozen/canned veggies and beans are cheap, and bags of fruit in bulk are too. no excuse for ramen!

Fast food is always equal or greater cost to cooking your own food. Eating healthy doesn't mean shopping in the hippy health section, it means buying the right food to make sure you're getting the nutrients you need and not overdoing bad shit like saturated or trans fats.

Healthy food is not expensive in the least if you know what to look for. I always laugh at people who use the excuse of eating at taco bell and other fast food places cause its cheap.

Quaker oatmeal.
Canned chicken breast.
Mixed green salads.

These are all DIRT cheap.

an entire head of lettuce is a dollar

you can get two cans of tuna in water for a fucking dollar

I bought a bag of 12 lean turkey patties for 6 bucks... thats 50 cents a patty. Wrap the fuckers up in lettuce and you have a meal that doesn't even cost you a dollar.

also, try shopping in mexican grocery stores rather than the big luxurious chains.. they have cheaper produce.

Pack of spaghetti-$1
Can of beans-$.69
Most fruit and vegetables~ >$1. I just bought a plum, an apple, a carrot and a pear for $1.85 on Saturday.
Tortillas-$2-3 for a pack
Rice-$1/lb

Try to make dinner in bulk. For example, get some lasagna noodles, sauce, brocili, spinach, cheese and make a big dish. Should last you several dinners.
Enchiladas- Tortillas, rice, beans, corn, (meat), sauce, oven, dinner
Burritos-Rice, beans, meat, cheese, lettuce, etc.
Baked potato, some chicken, side of vegetables and rice.
Peanut butter and jelly.

Eating well is easy and inexpensive. Just requires that you set aside ~30 minutes a few days a week to make some dinner.

it depends on where you live. in NYC, eating healthy will cost you the same or more as eating shitty. yes, you can reduce costs of food by learning what you should and shouldn't eat, and smart shopping, but it isn't necessarily immediately obvious.

otherwise, your comment, and most here, are helpful. cut out processed food and added fat (butter, oil, sour cream, salad dressing) as much as you can. eat as many fruits and vegetables as you can, even if you have to resort to canned/frozen (although fresh is best).

but you can eat healthy for the same price as eating fast food.

also, i noticed that when i eat a strict diet i eat more food, because i acquire fewer calories from consuming less fat. this is good, but you may notice a slight increase in grocery bills. regardless, your health and life are worth it.

I have the perfect balance of lazy and inexpensive.

Put flour tortilla on plate.
Add cheap processed chicken.
Add cheap shredded cheese.
Add cheap shredded lettuce.
Add cheap green salsa.
Microwave 1 minute.

Fold in half, then in half again. Eat.

Is there a Trader Joe's anywhere near you?

They have the most economical selection of healthy food that I've ever seen. Check it out if you can.

Seriously, found a 4 pound bag of frozen chicken breasts for 8 bucks, and they had huge frozen bags of mixed veggies (onions, bell peppers and broccoli) for like 3 bucks each. That mixed with some cheap hot sauces equals one delicious stir fry.

microwave vegetables
store-brand pasta sauce
generic whole wheat pasta
frozen chicken breasts
cans of tuna (target sells them for .99)

Buy stuff when it is on sale. I spend like $35 on groceries a week maybe, and I dont eat out. So $35 feeds me for a whole week, easily. I eat mostly vegetables and turkey/chicken/tuna.
