Hey /fit/, I was hoping you could give me some advice regarding protein shakes. I'm a girl and I've been lifting weight recently. I've tried to fill my diet with protein-rich things (cottage cheese, almonds, tofu, yogurt) but I'm still getting less than 75g a day. I'm about 130 pounds, so I should aim for at least 130, right?

So, I was hoping you could tell me how to make a tasty, healthy protein shake (that also isn't disgustingly high in calories).

I'm having my wisdom teeth out on Friday, so recommendations about soft foods I can eat then are welcome too.

shakes won't do much unless it's whey powder and taken after workouts. if you mix other stuff like fruit, milk or yogurt in it calorie count goes way up.

Where's the meat?

/fit/ girl here.
My protein smoothie thing usually consists of

1. Isopure (Alpine Punch) (210 cal, 50g of protein)
2. Cup of OJ (110 cal)
3. 1/2 cup of egg whites (60 cal, 12g of protein)
4. berries (optional)
5. Bunch of ice

If you want some ridiculous protein and you have an Omaha Steaks around, go get some Italian-Style Chicken Breast (prepared). It has 90 calories and 21 grams of protein. I usually have two on my lifting days.

Here's my pretty good shake. You can tell its a protein shake, but its masked pretty good.

1. chocolate whey protein - 1 scoop
2. 3/4 Cup Soy Milk
3. 1/2 cup 100% Cranberry Juice
4. 1/2-1 Banana (I put in one because I really like bananas)
5. 1 Cup Strawberrys, walmart sells frozen ones. Just buy a whole bag it'll last you a good
while.
6. 1 Cup of ice (IMPORTANT: THIS IS WHAT MAKES IT COLD AND DELICIOUS)

If you don't mind calories or want better taste, substitute the soy milk with frozen yogurt or something similar.

p.s. DONT GET CRANBERRY COCKTAIL OR SOME OTHER SUGARY MESS

100% real fruit juice. It'll say something like 100% juice, no sugar added on the front.

I'm a vegetarian. Milk is ok, because I'm severely deficient in vitamin D so I need to drink more anyway.

Bump

I got laughed at today for asking one of my athlete friends for a recommendation regarding protein shakes, and for telling him that I deadlift.

This is what I use and it tastes pretty good. Same texture as a milkshake and tasty to boot.

30g (one scoop) double rich chocolate ON 100% Gold standard Whey Protein.
1 Banana
1/2 cup milk
4-5 Ice Cubes

Mix that shit up and enjoy. Low calorie, high protein, and the banana helps things along after your workout.

The key to a good tasting shake is getting a good brand and a good flavor.

Also, I would only drink the whey after a workout. If you need a protein shake any other time of the day you should go with Casein protein. I always use ON's 100% Casein Banana or Vanilla flavor(the chocolate tastes like dirt). I always go with Optimum Nutritionthough.. better brand in general.

The most protein rich vegetables are beans and lenses, I suggest you eat as much as possible of those (fried kidney beans mixed with tabasco is pretty good).
If you can eat fish then that would make getting enough protein a lot easier (I'm a pescatarian myself).
