I suffer from mild to moderate shortness of breath, sometimes for over an hour at a time that comes and goes throughout the day.

Four years ago I had an echocardiogram that came out normal, a week ago I had several normal EKGs, and I've had normal chest X-Rays. Every doctor I've been to told me my heart and lungs sound perfect.

I went to an asthma doctor and my lung strength was above average, even while I'm short of breath.

The blood oxygen meter always records 96-100%, even while I'm short of breath.

I have a peak flow meter which measures my blowing strength, and I'm always above average.

I'm at my wits end trying to figure this out. How can my lungs and heart be 'healthy' and I be short of breath at the same time?

I've been told I have some form of subconscious hyperventilation, or a minor allergy that keeps pestering me throughout the day which makes some sense because there are many times when I feel I can get a full breath when I breath through my mouth instead of my nose.

Oh yeah, it's not an iron deficiency either, my blood work always comes back fine.

I hate to say it, but it does sound psychological. I do have asthma, but sometimes I think my inhaler is just a "key" to undoing an effect similar to yours.

I have an inhaler too, but I haven't had to use it. Many years ago I was diagnosed with 'non-specified asthma', which I think was the doctors way of shoving me out the door.

It is generally worse when I focus on my breathing but it's hard not to manually breath. If it is hyperventilation it's not "pass-out" hyperventilation, it's minor hyperventilation that pesters me throughout the day.

Still there are times when I feel like I'm not getting enough air when I breath through my nose, and the moment I breath through my mouth I feel like my lungs fill up and I'm getting enough air.

That's exactly how it goes with>>19719me.

Have you had your blood iron/haemoglobin count checked? Anaemia can cause shortness of breath.

Yeah, both came back fine. I definitely get enough iron in my diet.

is there any chance you're having minor panic attacks?

I have had panic attacks in the past, and this does not feel like a panic attack. Panic attacks usually subside pretty quick.

The shortness of breath is pretty persistent. It'll last for an hour or so, then it'll go away for a few hours, then it'll strike again for 30 minutes or so and go away again.

It's definitely minor but it's horrendously annoying because it's hard to focus on anything while it's happening.
