So I've had an infected toenail for years and years, now. Pic is said toenail (ignore the /b/, thats where I originally posted it, fags.)

Now last night, I was biting at it (Yeah, I bite my toenails.), and part of it actually came completely off (after a bit of pulling on it...). I ripped that part out completely, but here's the thing...only half of the toenail came off. The left side of the toenail is still alive, and it hurt to try and pull off, whereas the right side was completely painless.

tl;dr the right half of my toenail is completely removed, the left half is still there and won't come off without an extreme amount of pain.

If I leave it like this, will the right side grow back?
>> Anonymous
Yes it will grow back, i had to have one side of my nail cut off when i had an ingrown toenail.

Any idea as to how long it will take?
>> Anonymous
I removed ALL of my index toenail by cutting it slowly pieces by pieces because it died.

tl;dr it grew back

also, dont bite your nails, cuz it will make it weaker

Well I know it will grow back if you remove it ALL, but right now I have half of my toenail still intact. I just thought that maybe I'd have to remove the entire thing for it to grow back normally.

pic related, it will work

it takes as long as it takes your nails to grow normally, the left side of your nail will stay there and you will see the right side of it begin to start growing from the bottom up (obviously)

I don't know, but I recommend removing it all for your nails to start all over fresh
mine took around 1-3 month, and just try to ignore it

This is the only toe thread around so I thought I'd post this here. I don't mean to lead anyone away from OP.
Do ingrown toenails cause any serious health risks? The pain, stink, and bleeding are bad enough, but can I actually get ill from it?
>> Anonymous
>>410866

Yes. if the infection it causes gets bad enough you can become septic and die. Go see a doctor dumbass.
>> Anonymous
You don't need to get rid of the healthy side. As the toe comes in just trim the side that's still there and be sure to keep the toe clean so it does not get infected again.

The toe nail grows from the cuticle and should start coming in as it would normally.

>>410818
It will take a month to grow back probably. Just have patience and keep it clean to avoid infection.

>>410866
You COULD get sepsis but I had two ingrown toenails off and on for close to a decade. It's worth going through the procedure to get them removed. They numb the shit out of it, rip those babies out and it heals up pretty quickly with permanent results. Not even that expensive IIRC.

>>410889
i think most people will go to the doctor when the toe starts to rot and die, long before you get septic. you should also look into those special band-aid things that have a hard plastic nub that fits between the nail and the flesh, pushing the flesh away so that the nail can grow out

>>410818
biting your toenails is nasty enough, what the fuck were you doing biting at an infected one?

and it may or may not grow back actually, it really just depends on if there was damage to the cuticle

>biting your toenails is nasty enough, what the fuck were you doing biting at an infected one?

It's just satisfying to bite the little pieces of brittle toenail off.

>>410857
I want to, but the other side would actually hurt to remove. The side I took off was pretty much dead, didn't hurt at all.

>>410890
>You don't need to get rid of the healthy side.

yeah, about that...look at the picture again. Theres a bit of infection starting on the other side too.

Here's my nail now...

death from sepsis, dumbass. Infections are bad.

I had something like this for a while. Rip the fucking thing off completely, just get a spoon or some shit and dig every bit of it out, then clean it up. Man up, save yourself some money + time and tear it all off and clean it. It'll grow back fine after a while and you'll be glad you endured a bit of pain in the long run.

Well my toenails been infected with the fungus shit or whatever it is...for YEARS now. I remember being in like...8th or 9th grade and noticing my toenail starting to look weird.
>> Anonymous
yes, I've had that happen too. Keep it clean, maybe use a bandaid to keep the bare side from rubbingat your socks and it should be fine.
>> Anonymous
I cannot believe you chew on fungal toenails, you sick bat.
>> Anonymous
The right side will grow back fine. I recomend avoiding pain where possible.

I would recomend trying some fungal cream on that toe, and if it doesn't get better seeing a doctor. They will probably put you on anti-biotics for a month or so and then when that doesn't work operate on it.

When did you first start eating your toe nails? Just curious.
>> Anonymous
Put warm moist cammomile tea bags on it and keep them there

I have been since i was young.

How is it any different from biting your fingernails? I keep my feet clean (So I have no idea how I got the fungal infection shit in the first place...), so it's not like it's any dirtier than my fingernails.

Also, here's my toenail now. Completely removed it last night....after it was off, I covered it in hydrogen peroxide and let that eat away at it for a couple minutes, then when I layed down I covered it in neosporin.

Think it will be ok if I just lather it with neosporin and peroxide?

Lucky bastard.

I had the same issue. The fucking moron must have done something wrong because it regrew ingrown.
And now it's infected.
And now the only reliable and painless way to remove it would be surgery.
