I chipped my tooth this morning. Upon further research I've found that it's a Fractured Cusp. There is no pain, the nerve is not exposed or anything. So I'm just waiting until Monday morning when my fucking dentist is OPEN to have it taken care of. Here is my problem. The exposed crack is sharp, and since it's on one of my molars I constantly feel it on my tounge. It dosen't hurt but it's bugging the hell out of me and since I can't ignore it, I'm scared I'm going to cause more damage since I can't stop messing with it. Suggestions?

I don't think you'll damage it more. I mean, dentists grind the shit out of teeth all the time.

Stop eating jawbreakers.

I wasn't eating Jawbreakers. I was actually in the middle of working out. I know I'm going to use a mouth guard from now on no matter what, but the edge is really annoying. Anytime I move my tongue the slightest I feel it.

Not OP here.

I fractured a cusp on my molar just like this a few days ago, and I haven't gone to the dentist yet because I have no insurance or money to spare.

I have no pain or discomfort; I brush etc regularly. Do I really need to get this shit fixed?

OP here. From what I understand it varies on how you cracked it. More than likely they will need to put on a crown. Depending on the angle, they may just pull the chip and round off the tooth. If it's not bothering you, you should be fine, just be careful not to worsen it.

Do you know if you're getting a cap or filling? I asked a dentist friend who doesn't exactly have a license anymore, meaning he can't help me, but he told me it could be done with a filling.

Mine is a fairly shallow angle so I'm hoping they will just round it (cheaper), but I won't be surprised if they crown it.

I chipped one of my front teeth and because it was such a superficial crack, not exposing any nerve or anything, it didn't have to be fixed, unless it bothered me cosmetically.

It doesn't, so I still have the chip, mostly because I was a fag for Fight Club at the time. (Well, I did have it fixed, but the fixes only last a few years before they need to be redone, and I didn't get it redone with the piece came off)

So no, you don't always need to get it fixed. If its deep, or it hurts, then yes. But slight cracks and chips dont necessarily need to be fixed.
