Reading Starting Strength should be required before you post on this forum.
Kinetic chain, look it up. 90% of upper body movements involve a transmission of power that begins at your feet on the floor. Not just standing upright, but carrying shit, maintaining balance, striking an object, pushing against an opponent, throwing anything, hitting a ball against a bat, even flipping a goddamn egg... having a strong trunk will not only help you stabilize these motions, but will also give you momentum and power.
Also, life is not a constant BJJ spar. Your every day activities: walking around (assuming you're not a gigantic sedentary fatass, which you most likely are,) standing, posture, basically moving kinetically, all involves strong trunk muscles, and having strong trunk muscles improves your mobility and ability to withstand stress in day-to-day motions immensely.
Also, quads and glutes are the largest muscles in your body. Working quads and glutes out stimulates the production of a ton of hormones, test, growth hormone, a bunch of other shit, that stimulates the growth and increasing strength of every muscle in your body. People who work out their trunk have more balanced bodies, and more powerful, muscular, PRACTICAL physiques in both their upper-body and lower.
Now shut the fuck up and lurk more.
