eat before or after morning exercise? Anonymous
Is it better to eat before or after you exercise, first thing in the morning? Picture unrelated.

You shouldn't have anything more than coffee or tea in the morning if you are gonna go out for some cardio. If you are gonna lift weights you should have something to fuel your body to get you through a grueling workout, that is if your plan is to add muscle mass. And you should ALWAYS eat after you do any kind of exercise. You need to replenish your used up glycogen stores, and you have to have something to repair those torn muscle fibers.

he didn't really ask if you could survive after eating before morning cardio.

If you're looking to lose weight (if you're running in the morning i'd guess you are) then yes you're better off not eating since you won't fuel yourself with what you just ate, instead you'll burn off whats readily available in your muscles then switch to burning fat for fuel (fat is about half as good at providing energy as sugars are.)

Wait... If you're going to burn what's in your muscles anyway, does eating really matter for anything other than puking risks?

you'll burn off the food in your stomach before burning fat. it also increases the chance of you cramping up, generally if you're looking to lose weight it is suggested that you do morning cardio starved
