Sup /fit/. Is there any fitness/weight-loss value in long walks, or do I have to actually jog and get all sweaty?

Pic unrelated, I'm nowhere near that fit.

Yeah pfffffffffffft you don't even need to get sweaty. Just sit there and masturbate really hard to get /fit/.

No, seriously, right now I just sit at the computer all day. Will taking long walks help at all, or do I have to start seriously jogging?

Walking can be considered exercise only if you're like 350lbs

Walking is actually a great exercise to start out with. You can dramatically increase your endurance if you keep doing it for a few weeks, then move onto something more intense. If you aren't ridiculously heavy though you SHOULD just do running for the best benefit. If you REALLY want a workout go find a nice trail with a lot of switchbacks and pace yourself up it.

OP you're making a thinly veiled excuse for laziness. Yes, if you want to see results you're going to have to cowboy up and work for them.

All work and no play makes all natural badasses the old fashioned way. You don't sound ready to commit to anything and I'll doubt you're going to finish anything you start. I believe any advice other mis/fit/s will give to you will just be wasted upon your philistine ears. I have no faith in you based on what little you've already revealed about your attitude.

Sure. Walking is a great form of exercise if you intend to lose 0.4 pounds a fucking week.

Yo OP, real /fit/ person here. You can loose alot of weight by taking long walks - its a great way to start. Either by walking by yourself with a iPod on, or with a friend.
If you at the same time, walk with a fast pace (powerwalking) and decrease the amount of food you eat every day, your already on your way to get one step closer to being real /fit/.
Good luck!

That's actually some great advice. OP you should start walking until you get some crazy endurance, then go find some nearby hiking trails. Those things can be fucking intense.

Except for one issue. You're avoiding the truth and telling him that jogging would not only cause him to lose weight faster but it would help him gain pride in himself and his hard work. Not to mention his leg muscles would develop much better and his mental fortitude would increase from enduring more strain.

With walking all you get is the pride of commitment. Jogging is that and everything above.

agreed. there is nothing a walking can do for you that a good jog can't do better.

None of us know his stats. If OP weighs over 110kgs I wouldn't tell him to jog or run - his knees will get ruined fast. And I want him to loose weight slowly.. Get a attitude for it.. AND THEN GO DO SQUATZ

Have him jog on soft surfaces with insoles. Jog on his toes. Better he learn about joint health now then never.

OP post stats. If you're 190 and under then jog. If you're above that then walk up some fucking mountains.

OP here, I'm 90kg exactly, I dunno my height.

My pants size is about 34 to 36 inches.

I'm not looking to become super fit or anything, just back to normal. About a year ago I moved and went from walking/biking everywhere(didn't have a car) to riding a car everywhere, and sitting all day. I went from 74kg last October to 90kg today. I think about 65 to 70kg would be my ideal weight.

I was wondering if walking to town and back (5km one way) instead of driving, and taking walks in the afternoon for a couple of hours would at least stop the weight gain.

If I'd have to put in serious exercise time, would swimming work instead of jogging?

90 kilograms = 198.416036 pounds

If you've got a bike then use it. Swimming will do the trick if you go for daily distances of 300 to 500 yards. But jogging will still get you there faster if you hit the daylight for 45 minutes at a 7mph (8 minutes a mile) pace.

If you don't want to jog but you've got a bike then use your bike. Better exercise than walking but still keeps the strain off your knees.
