hai /fit/

I'm an overweight guy trying desparately to lose weight. I eat healthy, I work out, but the fat is going nowhere. I am suspicious of my medication (citalopram).

Does anyone have experience with losing weight while on anti depressants?

stop taking that shit
you dont need it

Some anti-depressants can cause weight gain. You should ask your doctor or psychiatrist about the specifics of your medication. DO NOT just stop taking it. Withdrawal can be worse than taking it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_John%27s_wort

<quote>St John's wort is today most widely known as a herbal treatment for depression. In some countries, such as Germany, it is commonly prescribed for mild depression, especially in children, adolescents, and where cost is a concern.[7] Standardized extracts are generally available over the counter – however, in some countries (such as Ireland) a prescription is required. Extracts are usually in tablet or capsule form, and also in teabags and tinctures.</quote>

switching or stopping is not really an option. I tried St John's, but it didn't help.

Didn't help what? I thought I had depression, or was supposedly depressed, but I don't think that's the case. I self-diagnosed and realized that happiness is found in simply existing, that no one has super-wonderful feelings all the time and time spent without them is just natural. My feelings of inadequacy stemmed 100% from a lack of self-confidence, lack of self-confidence due to low self-esteem and poor self-image. So I identified the source of my depression - poor self-image due to obesity and never fulfilling obligations. Psychologists and psychiatrists want you to believe that your poor self-image and unfulfilled goals are symptoms of depression, but I and many others disagree - those things are the cause of "depression".

How about getting psychiatric help to combat it rather than relying solely on drugs? My mother is on citalopram and I haven't noticed her putting on any weight, and just looking up the side effects online it doesn't say anything about difficulty losing weight (only weight related thing is loss of appetite)

Eating healthily doesn't automagically mean you are going to lose fat. You still need to be in a small calorie deficit

I'm not solely relying on the drugs, and yes I am getting help. But in the meantime, I'd really like to lose weight.

cognitive work (CBT, gettin' a little relijun, finding reasons to like yourself) plus SQUATZ cured 12+ years of depression for me... the meds they do nothing.

YOU are the only person who can take care of yourself.

lol religion. You fail. And don't give me that "At least it worked crap" because you know well and good that if it took you pretending that some mystical magical being cares about each of us yet lets us suffer actually cares about us then you have bigger problems than depression you delusional fuck.

Moar Liek:
People without depression pretending they have depression as a manner of disowning their own faults.

Depression is your fault for failing, depressionfags. Fix it and move on.

I'm religious and doing cognitive therapy.

Might I add, my point here is about losing weight, I'm already working on the depression.

I take citalopram and i'm /fit/.
But whatever you do, don't stop taking that haha. I know i've fallen out of track for a couple days, and I feel like a bag of flaming dog shit. Trust me, it's not the citalopram that's doing it AT ALL.
Maybe you just have a thyroid condition? Nevertheless, if you're being honest about being active and eating healthy and not losing weight, you should see a doctor. Although you might just be build big boned and your body just be endomorphic... so you naturally store more fat as "padding" than others.
