it's hard as hell to work the hams as a MAIN muscle without a machine designed for it. this should imply the level of importance you should place on working the hams. do you think cavemen and savannah tribesmen had to worry about how to keep those bulgy parts on the rear of their legs in shape? no, they just did what they did and nature provided.
that being said, there are still things you can do to work the hams, even though i primarily let them work for me as secondary muscles in deadlifts and goodmornings. one thing i do is bridge thrusts. put weight on your hips and your feet on the floor, lying on your back. thrust upward like you're fucking a chick riding you. you should feel this in 1. the hams and 2. the glutes.
