/fit/, usually I work out a fair bit. And so I've developed a good amount of upper body muscle which I am proud of, however over the summer I worked out less and at more, and consequentially gained a fair bit of belly fat.

My question to you is what the best way to lose it is, preferably quickly, Ive been doing daily aerobic workout already, and trying to eat less, but what I was really wondering is, if I go under the recommended calorie intake, while maintaining a good workout schedule, will I metabolize fat only or will my muscles still be at risk to burn off too?

Imagine this in your mind. You are on a boat, in the middle of a lake. You have a bucket. You fill your bucket with water from the lake.

When you removed the water.. did you leave a hole in the lake, where that water used to be? Or was the quantity of water in the entire lake reduced all at once?

THAT is how fat in the human body works. It all burns at once, or not at all. You cannot pick and choose WHERE to burn fat.

I am aware of that, I'm not asking how to burn an area, I'm asking what the best plan to burn fat fastest is, I know if I reduce calories I will burn fat but I wasn't sure if I would also lose muscle, so I decided to ask the guys who would know.

Starve yourself (600 or less net calories [e.g. after exercising calories burned are subtracted]) and don't drink a lot. That's how an anorexic friend did it. Fat cells grow and shrink like muscle cells

if I add a bucket (FAT) to the lake though, why does it all go to the run and pile up at this one certain spot (BELLY)?

answer that you stupid analogy maker.

The moment I read 600 I knew that was bullshit, I was thinking perhaps 1500-2000, seeing as I'm male the average I need ought to be in the region of 2500. As soon as I lost enough I would resume a normal diet.

But again my only fear is that I would be losing muscle, does a good exercising regime bias the body towards fat burning over muscle burning? I swear I read that somewhere but I'm not sure.

This is not OP, I'm hopping to learn about this stuff, I'm not critiquing any responses.

Well, obviously the water was frozen solid and is now sitting on top of the lake, also frozen. The solution is obviously to make sure your person is defrosted before consuming that big mac next time.

Analogist, perhaps?

i'd say go for a 1500-1800 range for a little but, take 2 whey shakes a day, eat lean meats and vegetables. try to lower carbs. do that for two weeks and then readjust. if you need to up your carbs for energy then do it. sometimes, i'll cycle carbs, 120g wo days, 60 off days, and one cheat day, within reason.
