No need for anyone to get all bent out of shape.
I suggest changing your diet by consuming more protein and carbohydrates.
Then start lifting weights. Feel it out. Go for a weight that's manageable but doesn't kill you, or fatigue you too fast.
The key to success is repetition. Rest the muscles you work the day after so they can rebuild and not get pulled.
Create a routine and stick with it until you get results!

Drinking alcohol fucks up your protein synthesis, and can diminish gains.

Start smoking weed. It'll give you the munchies, you'll take in more food, and you'll grow instantly.

Trust me, I'm a doctor.

OP: k, thanks ive been working out for the past couple of weeks trying to focus on the upper body and wondered if low weight high reps or high weight low reps would be better for me. other then that i already eat a lot (fast metabolism). i can usually work out for a couple hours and not be that sore at all the next day which makes me think im not doing enough.

LOW WEIGHT HIGH REPS

I think it would be best if you did low weight high reps.
You should rest anyway. If you pull a muscle or a tendon, you would be out of the gym for a while, and that would hinder, no shit eh?, you're ability to exercise. As far as drinking, I'm not a doctor, but if that's an aspect of yourself you don't wish to change, who am I to tell you to do so?

You need to concentrate on your entire body, not just your arms. The stress you receive from heavy compound exercises wash your body with testosterone and hormones, which no amount of curls and flies will do. Doing Dead lifts and Squats will cause your entire body to grow much more than isolating your upper-body.

Keep your workouts under an hour, going over has been proven to diminish gains.

Do that, and get together a good protein shake.

And he gave it to you. Alcohol fucks up protein synthesis, and lowers testosterone levels, testosterone being one of the primary anabolic (muscle building) hormones.
