I bought a jump rope the other day, and I used it for the first time yesterday on and off for about fifteen minutes. I'm really out of shape so within ten seconds I was panting etc. but it felt great.Anyway, today my calves hurt. They're tight, and I feel a pulling sensation when I walk. Stretching them helped a little bit.Is this normal? Should I give them the 48-hour rest or can I jump rope again for cardio?
Either or. You can wait 'til they're ship-shape (could take a friggin' week), or you can sit out a day or two and then get back to it as heavily as you can tolerate. In either case, though, you should probably give them a day or two.
Always start out slow, resting is a important part of training. Don't train unless you feel like your body is ready for it again.
>>I'm really out of shape so within ten seconds I was panting etc. but it felt great.I believe that's the release of endorphins, rewarding you for working out hard. As you get more in shape, I think you might not get them so soon.
it's gonna take more than 48 hours for you calves to stop aching as it's the first time you've used to muscles properly. Expect dull pain for atleast 3 - 4 days. Don't worry though, it's perfectly normal.
