I know you're all going to laugh, but I'm interested in Tai Chi for it's calmness. I'm thinking about taking Tai Chi, what does /fit/ think?

Took taiji in school and it's not that great. It takes a lot of dedication, and you get bored real quick.

in that, its more of a meditation sort of thing. if you are looking to change the composition of your body, tai chi will not do this. but you might learn to focus your strength, and position your body so it doesn't get knocked down and shit. also relieves stress.

but you wont get physically stronger, or lose fat etc etc

Thanks for letting me know,

For the lack of classes, I purchased a Tai Chi Dvd to learn from instead, apart from the relative slow paced calmness of it all - Why the hell am I sweating buckets? I mean I feel like I sweat more doing this than jogging.

but can you do this?

I do Sun and Chen style Taiji, and if you're interested in calmness then I'd suggest Yoga or to try it out and see if you like it yourself. Taiji is more meditative and physical, like a martial art that's rather slow. To put it in real layman's terms.

It won't give you instant results and it's not going to be like 4 weeks of doing it and you've lost 15 lbs and your waist has gone down to X-size. However, if you're happy with>>167596then stick with it and see what comes of it.

Holding positions (tai chi, yoga, etc) makes you sweat because you're using muscles you're not used to using. After a month or so, when those muscles are in better shape and you're used to using them, you won't be sweating as much or benefiting from the workout as much (hence why you change your workout routine every month)

It will help you relax and it will help you maintain better balance. After a while, the benefits won't be very much simply because it's repetitive motions that your body grows used to after so long.
