question /fit/. What are your professions? Do any of you have jobs that have anything to do with nutrition/training etc. or is it just a hobby?

I'm a night shift security guard at a retirement home. In the wing for patients with dementia/alzheimer's.

I walk around the building twice a night to make sure all the doors are locked. The rest of the time, I'm in my office watching TV or movies, browsing the internet, playing games on my laptop, or sleeping.

Of all the guards that work there, I'm the only one who's in good enough shape to actually catch a dementia patient trying to escape.

special education teacher for a highschool. i just enjoy being in shape. i also coach powerlifting/strength training for the teams. not so much as a coach, but more of an advsior. i get my workout done in the hour after school. by the time im done, the kids are congregating into the gym to workout. i just advise, check form, spot and shit like that. i dont get paid, i just enjoy helping the kids do the right thing rather than let the coaches tell them to do quater squats so that they can squat more lol

One guy is like 350lbs and old, with a bad back. Another is like 250+ and incredibly lazy (and always late). We do have a skinny guy, but he chain smokes and gets winded easily. The last person is a short and fat woman who is also lazy.

It's a really cool job though. I basically do jack shit, and get paid a decent amount. It's not amazing pay, but when you consider how much work I actually do, it's not that bad. Plus the insurance is quite good. Also, shit loads of overtime and holiday pay.

Student at a Quaker private preparatory school in Pennsylvania, doing the International Baccalaureate program and heavily involved in political/environmental activism. The last doesn't pay well, but I like doing it.

I exercise for my sports, which are wrestling, parkour, baseball, rock climbing, swimming, and cross country (in that order of importance, too).

Busboy at a restaurant. During the busy season it's an excellent job to get into shape since you're deadlifting heavy buckets of dishes/water/glasses/napkins/food off the floor every five minutes, and i'm constantly walking around and staying on my feet.

Used to teach Arabic for the Navy...money was good, but I'm now a primary caregiver for my dad in addition to my studies.

I powerlift, sprint, weight train and circuit train for fun.

It's also a remarkable method of stress management.

I agree with you about the stress. When I started training again it was as if the volume of the noise generated from my PhD studies was turned down and I could handle it much better.

I'm a kickboxing instructor and, for the more hardcore students, an all around coach, meaning that I also create training routines (not just weight training - plyos, BW training, strongman training, cardio, ect) and diet plans for 4 or 5 guys at a time, not counting myself. I have to be in shape even though I don't compete because if I'm not at least in better shape than the guys I'm teaching then I can't very well expect them to follow my advice, can I?

College student / Rugby player (open-side flanker) / BJJ + MT student during the fall, winter, and spring,
Beach Lifeguard during the summer

I not only depend on my physical performances for different sports thru-out the year, but saving lives during the summer. This past year has been especially hectic with Hurricane Bertha and Cristobal sitting off our coast just enough so it was still sunny outside ("yay lets go play in the ocean!") but rough enough so nasty breakers along with riptides still formed ("grglsplashgrglHELPgrgle").

Am also planning at going into the AFPJ pipeline in another couple years after ROTC, so i have to keep my physical conditioning up to stand a chance against that.
