Ok, let me start off by saying I am not a troll. If I am asking a stupid question, it is out of ignorance and not annoyance.

Anyways, I have been thinking about getting a pull-up bar to help get me stronger in my upper body, and more "ripped" in my upper body.

My question: Is said exercise equipment a good tool to achieve this goal, and what muscle groups does the pull-up work exactly?

Here is the link to the one I am thinking of getting.

Btw, I have very strong legs, as I am a runner. Unfortunately I suffer from the dreaded "skinny fat".

pullups work out lats and biceps mostly.

pull ups work ur entire upper body, also your core muscles. chin ups not so much.

What is the difference?

Hand position. Chin up = palms facing you. Pull up = palms facing out.

OP, get a set of rings instead, and build yourself some parallettes. Do pull ups, muscle ups, V-sits, L-sits, dips, push ups, all sorts of stuff.

Thanks for the advice, I will check into that.

a related question (not OP): i've noticed at my gym that I'm one of the few people who can do many pull-ups, and do 'em properly. I can does 3 sets of 12, and two sets of twelve and another set of 9 with 5 kilo weight attached.

is this awesome? y/y

I have that exact bar. Makes for a great weapon too.

pullup bar is excellent... and you can vary what it works by doing variations:
normal
wide
close
onearm
commando
supine
prone (see beastskills.com, they call it something else)
make surre you do a lot of the supine ones so you don't fuck up your shoulder by getting imbalanced

Make sure that the pullup bar can hold your body weight.
Models differ in that.

lats, serratus (in some variations), bis, delts, tris (if it's a muscleup), forearms (gripping the bar... thumb on same side as fingers for even better gains), pecs (in supine), abs (actively in prone, supine, and muscleup... a stabilizer in the rest), longissimus (actively in commando, and as a stabilizer in all the rest), erector spinae (active in prone, stability in the rest)

lats, shoulders, biceps, triceps and forearms, in approximately that order.
