I've recently decided that I want to start lifting weights and build some muscle. I've never really done any type of lifting before so I have a few questions.
How do I look at the moment? (5'8", 115~ lbs)
My BF% is hella low, I'd say under 2%
Pushups/Chinups are a breeze for me, I can get 15 chinups no problem without any real training.
I'm usually pretty active, playing soccer and running.
So /fit/, where should I start? Any tips?

Also, is a Total Gym useless? I've got one sitting in my basement and I'd prefer to use it over buying a gym pass or some shit.

yeh it makes sense, but heres the problem.

you have a mental/psychological barrier, you think that by eating too much you will get fat, so instead of eating enough consistently and exercising you are underfed.

we both know you don't eat as much as you could. be honest with yourself, and accept that you suddenly wont just grow fat all over your body.

Usually I'll wake up, eat a bowl of cereal (some granola shit) and a grilled cheese. I'll snack on some pepperoni sticks leading up to lunch. For lunch I'll have a sandwich or a chicken pot pie. I'll keep rummaging around as I get hungry and snack on food (some chips, trail mix, cashews etc). For dinner its usually your typical meat+side+side+salad. Never usually eat dessert.
I drink a shit-ton of milk thruout the day too.

Oats (wholegrain - complex carbs)
Lots of Lean meat
Lots of veggies.
A bit (relative to rest of what you are eating) of fruit

4-7 times a day. Biggest meals at the end and start of the day.
Drink more water. At least 2 litres.

That fact that you're that fucking thin suggests you have an overactive metabolism.

You will not make any signifigant muscle gains without a caloric surplus. You are severely underweight, and you would have to gain roughly forty pounds of pure fat before any would even remotely call you chubby.

Fun fact: If you're eating clean, lifting heavy, and eating enough to actually make your body grow, you aren't going to gain fat, you will gain muscle.

If you still aren't gaining weight, guess what? Eat more. Eat unhealthy, dirty bulk the fuck out.

Also never, EVER pay attention to how hungry you are, that is not an indicator.

your actually probably around 9% bodyfat, if you were even close to 5 you'd be able to see your organs through your skin since you have no muscle between your skin and them. Your body is pretty nasty, but some girls are REALLY into that, nasty bitches. Lift heavy and eat until your ready to puke, then wait 30 minutes and eat more. Your never going to get strong, your doomed to be an endurance athlete forever, sorry. you could make a damn good runner though

Total gyms are total crap, there are hundreds for sale on ebay. Save a little bit, bite the bullet, join a real gym.

Start light, start with freeweights, avoid cardio, and EAT. Eat a lot. It will be hard because you're built like I was before I joined the Army, one sandwich fills you up, but you have to force yourself to eat something between meals even. You won't get any muscle if you don't work them and FEED your body.

Protips: Chinups are not real exercises, they're easy because there's nothing to lift. Once you start gaining weight, boom, suddenly they'll get harder.

My natural bodyweight is around yours. But I'm up to 135. Important tips

Drink Chocolate Milk. At least a galon a day. That's
2560 calories, 128G of protein, and 96G of fat. On top of what you normally eat, this will private a huge surplus of calories, all the protein you will need for awhile and enough fat to bulk up.

If you eat properly on top of this and exercise regularly, you'll get somewhere

I started out like you. I just started doing pushups every day. You say they're easy for you, thats fine, it doesn't mean they won't work. Do as many as you can until you fail, then rest and do that two more times. Get pushup stands too, it makes it harder. I do 20x3 every day. Simple, easy upper body workout.

Also, if you're not gaining weight right now, then you will have to eat more to gain muscle. Like I said, started like you-- all I did was eat one extra meal loaded with protein after I workout.

Oh yeah, I forgot-- yeah I'm still skinny blah blah I know. I'm not saying I've turned into Mr. Universe from doing pushups for a few months-- but I did get a nice improvement that I'm happy with. Most people I meet in real life think I'm pretty cut/fit (most people in real life are jealous fatasses).
