Wiki HIIT. tl;dr, run as fast as you can for 30 seconds then jog for 30 seconds, and run fast again. Do it for 10 minutes at first if you can, and slowly increase the time.
If you do it right, you'll feel fucking exhausted at first. Actually, you'll always feel exhausted after a good HIIT session. Most people will tell you that a 20 minutes HIIT session will be somewhat like a 50 minutes regular aerobic session, but HIIT has the added benefit that you'll keep burning calories after your workout, since your body will try to repair your muscles.
Regarding soda, just quit it, diet soda as well. If you're a pussy who can't stand plain water, just add a few lemon drops or drink green tea (do it yourself, don't buy premade tea). Watch out with juice, even organic ones, since they always ave lots of sugar.
And watch what you eat. If you plan to lose weight, you should burn more than you eat; but NEVER starve yourself. Just eat normally (pick healthy foods) and work out a lot. Plan 5 or 6 smaller meals through the day, so you'll force your metabolism to act faster. Drop potatoes and other starchy foods, watch out for saturated fats (don't drop them, your body needs them, just not that many), and be really careful with carbs: drop white bread, rice and pasta, and eat whole grain bread and pasta and brown rice, since they have complex carbs that your body won't absorb as fast.
