Body Fat Scale Juggy
Hey /fit/,

Do any of you guys use a body fat scale? Are they worth getting? I'm thinking about picking a cheap one up from Target or something.
>> Anonymous
Yes it's great.
I can check bodyfat as well as musclemass.
It's cool to see your effort working out, e.g. fat going down and muscle up.
However, one can get obsessed with these numbers and I could imagine some people get anorexic due to it.

I use a Tanita IronMan scale which tells you bodyfat, visceral fat, bone mass, body water, basal metabolic rate, and all sorts of other things.

>>26477so basically you use a weight that lies to you every single time you get on it, congratz

How the hell can it determine body fat just from your weight? Is this one of those AS SEEN ON TV products that only meatheaded idiot bodybuilders buy?

it sends an unnocticable electric current through your body and calculates your body fat based on the electrical resistance as fat conducts electricity at a different rate to bone/muscle/skin etc.

A simple Google search. That's all it takes.

I use this one. They're pretty accurate, but it's dependent on your body water levels to work correctly.

Being overhydrated/dehydrated will mess with results.

Op, I have that one and I'm not sure how accurate it is. My body fat ranges from 21-23% when I use it depending on hydration, but the one at school gives me a consistent 20%.

I have one but it's best when you use it the moment you wake up and aren't on your period (since your water fluctuates around that time)

does anybody know why I would CONSTANTLY get a Error message for my bone mass reading?

Other numbers check out fine.

You don't have any bones?

Were your bones infused with adamantium?

Me again.
No, no, I'm not wolverine, and I do have bones. Lots of bones.
My body type is best defined as skin and bones (and a lil fat).

Personally I think my bones are a little more dense than the average persons (only break ever was from an 80lb steel wedge on my foot, and just a fracture).

It's an electrical current reading.
I thought maybe dirty feet on the contacts (washed, no effect).
I thought maybe my feet are too calloused (martial artist, smacking bare feet on hard stuff is a way of life)
I though maybe my bones are just too dense (naturally occuring + martial conditioning).

Any non X-men ideas?

no advice but i'm sold. This is now on my list of shit to get.

Could be your bones are oversaturated with water, making the scale think it's muscle?
>> Anonymous
>>27444
That's possible?

I don't think so. Scale says H20% is normal, and i don't think I was overhydrated at any of the times I checked. I didn't know bones could even do that, though.

It might just be a shitty weight watchers scale (some family joined program, I borrowed scale for lulz).

The likely explanation is probably closely related to that. The scale takes a resistance reading, determines fat/muscle then does a subtraction to give the bone reading. Apparently it thinks you are 100% fat and muscle and is dividing by 0 oh shi...

I loled.

Yeah I'm going to assume that my particular body chemistry is too messed up to be measured reliably via current. I don't think I want to bother with the pool test ($$$ and laziness)
