How many pounds (we'll assume strictly fat pounds) do I need to lose to get down to the abs?

I am 206 in this picture. I am going to guess 18% bodyfat (maybe?) so... to get to about 10%, I would need to lose around 8% body fat, so 16 pounds.

How do my calculations sound/look?
>> Anonymous
I'm guessing you're higher than 18%
>> Anonymous
Is 10% ab-country? I would think it would be a little lower, on average. Like, 8% or something.

What sounds more accurate? I don't have fat calipers or anything, so I am ball-parking this.

How tall are you? I'm guessing you'd need to get down to 170 at LEAST, and that's with some decent muscle mass. 160 should put you there for sure.

I am 6'2"

I have around 18 to 19 % and can see a lil bit of ab. You would be around 22 % or so.
12 % is enough to see a six pack or so I read here.
>> Anonymous
Continued: I don't care much about my 19% and just try to gain strength and bulk up my upper body especially.
Reason: If you lose all your fat and have no muscle, you turn to skinnyfat, which sucks even more.

nice posters dude, you remind of myself in terms of weight, height, interests even skin colour.

Abs are a myth. Definied abs equals lesser strength and lesser ability to survive hostile envrionment. The ideal is unlogical. Train your abs but dont bother to much with definition in those areas. It´s overrated and will look ridiculous without additional muscle mass in other areas. Be a viking not a sissy!

Indeed, women look for broad shoulders.
You can have a small gut, if you got a good upper body it does not mean anything.

You look pretty good for you weight. I'm the same height but currently weigh 214lbs, down from 234 and heading to 184, and still have man handles on my waist that are much biggre than yours.

In today's society, it's acutally a lot more logical to be skinny, since famine is nonexistant in developed countries, and lower caloric intake = longer life.

Yeah, I have a 'love handles' problem too. Another concern is that when I was young, I had gynocomastia (basically, small breasts.) Doc went in, cut out the breast tissue. One unfortunate side effect is that my nipples are now concave (and a little lopsided. Can't tell in this picture though). I am hoping that, if I cut the fat on my chest and below it, they will flatten out. So, I have more motivation than just abs. We'll see how that goes!

I am still lifting weights, so I am hoping to keep the muscle mass I have, maybe even grow a little bit despite losing fat (still trying to keep my protein intake up). Once I slim down, I am planning on bulking again, trying to put on strictly lean gains.

Anyways, am I hearing that my goal for love-handle free, maybe even ab definition, should be around 170? That seems really low, considering I am 6'2", but then again, I was 185 about 8 months ago, before bulking, and didn't have abs then. I do have more muscle now though. I will keep at it!

Holy shit anon, if you took all that upper chest hair and moved it down around your belly button you would have the exact same looking body as me.

This was me before bulking. So, some progress.

188 in this picture. So, I am guessing I'll need to be a bit below that for abs...
>> Anonymous
You´re right about caloric intake but wrong about the matter at hand! A healthy body consists of both muscle and fat. You should avoid getting obese but you should also avoid getting too skinny because it drains energy in a way that influence your mental state as well. One should not underestimate the value of balance.

>>190930
indeed, you gained some upper body mass. Keep it up and don't worry too much about abs now. My two cents that is.

>>190934

Fuck these "BEEFCAKE!!!!" idiots, OP. They want you obese for some reason.

You did a really shitty bulk and gained maybe 5 pounds of muscle and many pounds of fat. You will need to go as low as some more level-headed guys here have stated--regardless that you are 6'2"... it was a bad bulk.

Bulking is a diet, remember. It's not a fun time.

I appreciate that, but even keeping that in mind, 20-22 percent bodyfat is probably more than it ideal.

Like I said, I will cut fat, and go back to gaining muscle as soon as I get a body shape I like..

Really? I didn't think I did that bad a job of 'bulking.' I put on some fat, sure, but I thought I also put on a good bit of upper body mass and leg mass. Shit. I am a little discouraged.

don't listen to the hater. The change is noticeable.

Most of us aren't training for world war 3.

I'd rather look good and be strong than have maximum survival efficiency in a nuclear holocaust.

Yeah, as in "five pounds of muscle" noticeable, no more. The tits have something underneath to give them some form, and the belly has enough muscle under it to not sag like jello, but there was not a good ratio of muscle:fat gain going on during that bulk.

The haters would be telling him lies, so fuck off with your lowered expectations. He needs to come down to 175, but don't take my word for it.

Take the navy circumference test for your BF with a tape measure, then compute:

(206 - 206*BF) = leanmass

then

leanmass/0.88 = targetweight

http://zone.cust.he.net/prothd2.html

That would put you at 12% and you might begin to see faint abs.

Agreeing with this anon's conclusion: ab country generally starts at around 12% for men. Get down to 10% and you should see some good definition.

hi there. I'm around 165 in this picture. I would not say that i'm dead skinny or morbidly obesse. i would tell that i'm rater fit. But abdomen part of my body is strange.

I don't know if picture shows this but i will try to explain. Up from the belly there is little to no fat, in good light my chest bones are visible but down from there are some these strange curves. it makes me look strange.

I think that if i have to much body fat my chest bones would not be visible. Am i right? Or have i just fat belly?

It make me feel strange...
Is there any way to fight these?

Hey /fit/

I'm just starting to exercise after about 18 years of inactivity. For the past week I've ran 3 miles every night. What else can you suggest to help me get into shape?
>> Anonymous
all these calculations are assuming that you somehow lose no muscle in the process, and all fat, which i highly doubt will happen
>> Anonymous
>>190881
this is true, you look like a faggot at low bf and just abs. its like you are wearing a diaper or something with spindly arms.

get strong, dont have a gut, but fuck abs. th ebest decision i ever made was to go from 9% to 12-14% bodyfat. My strength is through the roof now, and im nowhere near fat.

Maybe this helps. By body is a little twisted in this picture and my abs are relaxed, it looks a little better in reality. My upper abs are rather flat not defined but rather flat, but the lower part is mess. I just hate these curves on the sides. Is that so called "love handles"?

I'm walking just around 2 miles every day and i'm rather active during the day. But i'm not working out because i don't have time to do so.

Sometimes i do twisted crunches for the abs region. i know that i can't loose fat from one place.

Can /fit/ give me some advice? Should i run or something? I want to get rid of these...
Thanks anyway.

Yes, doing your cardio is how you're going to burn that fat off.
