I'm gaining weight like hell.
4 lbs in 2 weeks.

My diet before these 2 weeks was a 'weight maintaining' diet, and I'm doing better since then. I'd estimate a few hundred calories a day less now, than what it was.

The only thing I did different? I started doing squats (as well as my normal routine). I know you guys might be thinking "squats = best! it is 100% muscle you gained!" but I have doubts.

Basically what I want to know is does ~2-3 lbs muscle gain over 2 weeks sound reasonable? I'll have you know that I was sore as hell after those days I went to the gym, mostly in the thigh-butt area.

228 -> 232lbs
~15% bodyfat.

Wont I just lose most of the muscle in the process?

Actually, you look worse with fat if you're small. You need to gain it then cut it to get bigger still. But a flabby appearance is shit especially on a smaller guy.

I dont understand why I have to get fat if I want to get buff. What if I ate all the required protein, but less calories?

You need more calories than you burn to gain weight, full stop. Adding muscle is very, very hard biologically.

You don't have to become a total lardass to get big (and if you ARE a lardass you shouldn't EVER think of bulking) but you will have to accept a little softening.

I see buff kiddos in the gym with little bodyfat all the time. Does this not apply to them?
