hi, /fit/. I have a question about nuts

I want to add something to my daily food intake (oatmeal and fruit during the day, then a small salad, potato, and chicken breast for dinner) because while my workout has increased, my diet has not, and I end up being pretty hungry for most of the day

I figured nuts were a healthy way to do this, and I've been doing some reading, so I ask: peanuts or walnuts?

I'd just be eating a small amount of either one (unsalted)... walnuts seem to have more fat, but that's all I've really gathered

Thanks!

Walnuts are listed on many sites as a "superfood". I don't know what you plan on doing with them (mixing, turning into butter, salad topping, whatever). Peanuts are tastier, but walnuts are probably better for you. If you want, try a blend of your favorites. Once you know for certain which nuts are "best" for health, try and up the percentage of those in the mixtures.

I'm not going to do anything in particular, just put them in a bag and eat them during the day at work

the only thing that worries me is: 1 cup shelled walnut halves = 100% of daily fat intake (per regular 2,000 calorie diet)

I exercise (running, pushups, crunches, etc) every day, but reading stuff like that makes me paranoid

They both taste just fine to me, I'm just wondering exactly how much of either I should eat... though I guess that question probably doesn't have a definite answer

well generally speaking, the portion size you should have for any kind of nut should be half a cup or less. Nuts, while good for protein and health, are dangerous for calorie counters. TBH just don't eat a ton and you'll be fine.

That's bullshit. Look what "low fat diets" of the past 25 years have done for the country. Turned us all into tubs of lard. I can't imagine having fat from nuts is going to kill you, just make sure not to take in more total calories per day.

I still don't understand you calorie counters... what the hell is the point? just remain active all day.

I'm with you. Eating right, exercise, and staying drug-free are for pussies.

That's just the thing though, a lot of us live sedentary lifestyles. If your job entails you sitting in front of a computer for 8 hours don't compound it by eating enough calories to run a marathon each day.

counting calories so we dont' go over anymore than what we need just turns into fat good example is a guy posted on here that hwe went from 166-188 in 5 weeks eating everything in sight with cytogainer. He just looks like a fat dude now, gaining 1-2 pounds of muscle a week it should take about 3+ months to gain that much. and the results are much better.

Walnuts taste alot better than peanuts(imho). And if my memory serves me right, peanuts had high GI, and walnuts had low, so walnuts are better option if you want to lose weight or stop insulin spikes.

Yep. Everyone has the option of being constantly "active"

You're an idiot.

Peanuts often have a carcinogens called "afloxins" (I believe that's the spelling), which are molds that grow on them during the shipping/storage processes. Now, this won't kill you outright, but if you're eating A LOT (like I was) for a long period of time (like I was) it becomes a point for concern.

Trader Joe's sells an amazing cashew-macadamia butter, though it's a bit high on the carb side. Almonds, pecans, and Brazil nuts are all great to have in addition to walnuts. Mix it up.

if that's what you think then you're an idiot. putting on muscle mass requires a large caloric surplus and that guy is not all fat as you like to tell yourself. lean bulking just means you don't put on as much fat and is much much much harder to do.

walnuts are better because they have omega-3 fatty acids, and that fat protects your heart if you don't know.

I also like both OP, I just eat a little bit of both when I have the chance.

Fuck 'em both, do almonds.
