Hi /fit/,

I've been training to join the navy lately, and its going pretty well. But recently I've been having trouble whilst running. I'm getting a pain on the inside of my legs, along the edge of my shin bone (see picture). It hurts when I press on it with my finger, and it becomes painful when I'm running, nothing else seems to trigger it. I'm pretty sure its not down to over training, and I don't think its shin splits I'm totally confused as to what could be causing it.

Right now I'm running around 15~18 miles a week, with 4 days on and 3 days of rest. I'm eating a good balanced diet and am strength training aswell. I get no trouble from my legs doing anything other than running. As far as I can tell my shoes are alright and I didn't think I had problems with pronation but this is driving me to despair.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing it? Or am I going to have to fork out to see a physio?

Thanks,

i would normally flame you, but im in a good mood today. those are called shin splints. it is due to you being out of shape compared to how you are excercising. there is nothing you can do, except ice them after running to reduce the pain. oh, and stop being a pussy, that helps too

Had the same thing after my first week of running. Nothing you can do aside from taking some ibuprofen, run through the pain, and ice after your run. Also, look up some shin exercises to build up shin strength to prevent future pain. If it is unbearable after a week of running try Bengay or something similar. If the pain still continues for 3 or more weeks, and Bengay doesn't work at all, see a doctor. It's extremely unlikely, but possible, that you might have a minor stress fracture.
