Hi guys. I'm looking to gain some muscle and burn some fat. According to a BMR Calculator I found online I have a BMR of 1876.48. meaning I probably burn something like 3k calories on my most active days. I'm currently doing the 5x5 work out with cardio on the days inbetween.

As I've understood it some of the basic principles of gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time is balancing deficit and surplus of calories throughout the day. An example of this is eating a good protein and complex carb meal after lifting weights. But what part of the day should I be burning the fat? Should I do cardio after lifts so that when I sit down to eat after 5x5 and cardio all the protein and carbs go to muscle growth instead of fat storage (because the body prioritizes muscle growth, at least in someone like me with a lil' extra chub).

Would you recommend cardio after weight lifting or should I rather do my cardio on the days inbetween lifting like I'm doing at the moment?

If I stick to seperate days for lifting and cardio I'm going to asume that I need to eat less on cardio days.

Does 2,500 calories on lifting days and 2k on cardio days sound good with the bmr value I have?

Additional info: I usually eat 4-6 meals a day. Relying mostly on whole products (oats with skimmed milk and honey for breakfast, whole bread/pasta/rice/cottage cheese/peanut butter/nuts/fish/chickinz for inbetween meals, lunch and dinner). I try to stay clear of sugar except post workout when I usually eat an apple or a banana and the honey I use in my breakfast.

Sorry for the wall of text.

First OP, I didn't bother reading past the 2nd paragraph. Basically you can't bulk and cut at the same time. Well actually let me rephrase that, You CAN its that it just takes an incredible amount of time and effort then just bulking + cutting. Just eat more protein and carbs and stick with bulking for now if your just around 10-15% BF. If its higher cut down to that and bulk then cut it again.

From this post you show that you already know more than about 90% of /fit/. You are probably better off just doing what you are doing now instead of relying on anyone here.

OP Here. Thanks for a good answer. Time and effort is something I have, however. I may not be able to do this in the future, but at the moment I'm kind of a student, but not really putting my effort into it. I'm rather interested in experimenting with entirely different things and getting fit is one of those. I've never been a slob though I've just never had very lean body. I'd love to achieve that and I know I have the willpower I'm just trying to collect as much good information as possible but the world of fitness and nutrition is so divided and plagued by marketing.

You might be onto something, but at the same time I can't deny getting plenty of great leads from this place. But I try to be as sceptical as I can without becoming prejudiced and narrow. This guy>>461868
says the same thing that the owner of my previous gym told me, that burning fat building muscle was possible but probably required more routine and care than what I could muster. This sounds like a challenge I atleast would try. I'm an ex armyfag and I've happily learned something about pushing my body to its limits.

Come on, I know two of you guys in this thread has atleast some knowledge to share.

Sorry OP, was busy fapping but if you're up to the challange and have enough time (1 year - 2 years for some major gains/results) then go ahead. Just remember though to eat clean at least 6 days a week. But other then that your good. You take pictures of yourself every 3 months or so to see results for a self motivation thing and also to show it off later.

I should be able to eat clean on average 7 days a week. The exceptions will be if I'm celebrating something or if I mess up with long drug nights. I'll probably allow myself a bit of sauce on my meats now and then. But I really love pure food, maybe with some salt and pepper. The picture thing is a good idea, I'll do that. I could still use a bit more knowledge though, if anyone has anything throw it out there so I can take it into further investigation. Thanks so far
