My karate progression over a couple of years was something like knuckle push ups on wood, jumping knuckle pushups on wood, then heavy bag with gloves to learn it, heavy bag without gloves, then a wooden plank with rough rope wrapped around it (covering it), then knuckle pushups on the sidewalk, then jumping knuckle pushups on the sidewalk, then knuckle pushups on the street.
Took a couple of years. Not something you should try next weekend.
