Hey /fit/, what do you recommend for keeping the mind sharp and clear? I feel like my brain has begun to atrophy since I finished college.

Read challenging material (not cnn.com, try dostoyevsky or cormac mccarthy), work logic puzzles with progressive difficulty (i.e. sudoku), do the occasionaly math problem just for the fuck of it, and have some interesting discussions with smart friends. You might have to leave 4chan for the last one though...

Brain Age. It's fucking worth it.

Whatever it was you were interested in in college, stay interested and involved in it. In a 4 year degree, you didn't even scratch the surface. Keep learning.

Beautiful vegetated areas and walking in them. Being aware of your surroundings. Reading history and learning how things work. Breathing exercises.

I was just going to say Brain Age. I got bored after 7 days though, stamps weren't stimulating enough, I already plateaued in my charts... I'm a lazy fuck.

I'm doing undergrad in Neurobio and minoring in Japanese. I don't like Sudoku; I dislike that form of puzzle. I do like learning languages, music theory, and art, though. So if you're not the type of person who likes number puzzles, try learning something new about nature, people, art, or philosophy.

I used to like going through all my books again. Once you get the chance to actually savor the information, your understanding becomes much deeper. Also, find out what books the graduate program is using, and start reading.

Take in and process more information in general. Ever just dive into an encyclopedia looking for things you're interested in? Even Wikipedia is good stuff for delving into the depths of accrued human knowledge.

You might check out the Rotten Library. If you don't, of course don't believe every single word you read; above everything else, think! Cogitation is what makes us so adaptable.

An easy way to get the mind going is to break out the old dif eq book and go through some of the problems out of each chapter.

Sudoku/Brain Age/whatever is for faggots that can't do dif eq.

keep reading and learning shit. If you are just wandering tru life, not learning anything, you are doing it wrong.

Also, try the frozen omega 3's &6's. Works for me. And now I can talk to the animals!

Pick a branch of math and start studying it. Treat it like physical exercise, do it about 1-2 hours three times a week. Not much in the world is a more rigorous brain workout, and you'll find the boost in critical thinking will help you accross the board.

Don't discount social intelligence-- every once in awhile (I'd say at least once a week) strike out alone and just people watch for an hour or two to hone your body language recognition skills.

Keep up with current events, and read the news with you're bullshit detector in full gear. Being able to critically analyze information on the fly is one of the best skills you can develop.

I understand what you're saying, and it does help one reason out social rules to watch people, but it's also creepy. If you have to do it, at least do something else too. And for truth's sake, don't be all Intense about it.

It's not so much a goal of reasoning social rules (you antisocial fuck), as it is to being able to hone your ability to detect the subtle yet important signals people send.

Obviously you don't want to be a creepy asshole, staring at people. But you want to be able to discern as quickly and accurately what's going on without hearing the contents of the conversation, especially since this is often more illuminating of what is transpiring psychologically relative to the contents of the conversation. It's not very difficult to do this in a clandestine fashion.

Rules of communication nonverbal are still rules, anon, but fine.

Unnecessary addendum: I'm plenty social, eat four dicks.

Start writing 1 page of something every day. Will make you be creative. Also, learn a new skill every two months. Tennis, throwing a spiral, carpentry or shooting sports.

Indeed. Anonymous is a lazy fuck and doesn't treat his brain very well but reads several full sized novels a month and keeps himself sharp.

As an added bonus you'll broaden your vocabulary.

Physical labor of the gardening type. Digging outside all day lets your brain expand in ways you'll never get from sitting on your ass reading.
