If you run barefoot already, great, screw these then. The idea of these is that the insoles in your regular running shoes are bullshit and cause certain calve muscles to shrink/die a great deal. These shoes only put on the bare minimum amount of rubber below the critical points of your soles as to protect from stepping on debris. I use these on concrete.
But if you're only running barefoot on sand, then you're working more the upper leg muscles which absorb the shock than the calve muscles which deal with the muscles connected to your soles. It's somewhat an entirely different running game, barefoot on soft and hard surfaces.
