This whole idea of Protein after workouts, is it just for the l33t muscle pros, or should nubs do it to, and how much Protein? I just had half a tub of no fat yogurt after my workout just then, about 200cal and 20g of Protein, good idea/dumb idea?

yes you should have protein after a workout. Whey protein is the best post workout protein because of how fast it mobilizes afaik. Protein from a milk product is casein and absorbs in your body slower, so its not the best thing to drink after a workout.

Protien synthesis in your body spikes after you finish working out. Anything you give it will be used more efficiently during this period. Giving your body fast digesting protien will stop the catabolic reaction. (body eating itself)

Supplement timing isn't just for pros as it will help muscle recovery and make sure you're not robbing your body of essentials trying to make it keep up. You are breaking down and rebuilding muscle here. You need to give your body the tools to repair itself.

As far as the second part of your question goes, anything with a substantial amount of protien after your workout is ideal. Your post workout meal should have the most protien of all your meals to take advantage of the protien synthesis spike.

A lot of people use a protien shake to make sure they meet the requirements your body needs, but you don't have to have one. Just make sure whatever youre eating is somewhere + 30g of protien and its relatively quick after your workout. Your body will go catabolic if you don't give it what it needs, which is exactly the opposite of what you want if you're trying to pack on mass.

There's no point in taking your protein after working out because the only thing the body needs then are minerals and energy. Protein should be taken over the whole day, because you body needs it all the time. Muscles are built while you sleep.
