I've a doctors appointment tommorrow and I'm really nervous. I suspect I've some major mental issues relating to depression or similar conditions.

Any advice on how to bring this up with a doctor so that if it isn't as simple as a minor case of depression it gets treated without seeming like a self diagnosing hypochondriac?

Just tell them you took some kind of online test and it said you "may be depressed, you should speak to a doctor" or some bullshit like that.

hello ts, you have hypochondria. You need to visualize yourself with arms and legs chopped off- and having to have to pay someone to feed you and wipe your ass every single day of your life- ok got it? good.
depre-what now?

Describe your symptoms to the doctor. He'll most probably ask you to fill out a test form after that for an initial diagnosis. Don't lie or try to screw with the results.

If he's good, he'll prescribe you proper drugs and further help right away. Drugs are sometimes hit or miss at first.

Physician =/= psychologist

If you're depressed, see someone who can actually treat you. Ask for a referral to a therapist. If he tries to push pills on you, find a new doctor.

Just bring your car gun in with you to the appointment. It always make me feel better, and may help you in your case with said healthcare professional.
