Sup /fit/,

I'm an athletic guy, and I try and eat healthy all the time. Unfortunately, Obesity runs in my family, and no matter how hard I work, I still end up being fat. Is there any way to get rid of body fat due to family history and body type?

Pic somewhat related, but not really.

most likely it's because you and your family eat like pigs. stop saying it's in the genes when it's not.

Diet; that's all there is to it. As a friend of mine rather nastily observed there were no fat people in Aushwitz.

No amount of effort will ever equal the stuff you can cram down your mouth. Even healthy food in the wrong ratios can make you fat. With that in mind start a food journal; weigh your food carefully or make calculations based on the FDA labels on the packaging. A fair amount of people scoff at this but it's the only way to really be sure what you're doing an how much you're really consuming.

Also; try a low carb diet; or if you're a particular hard case a Keto diet. It's been estimated that about 75% of the populace in North America is severely carb intolerant; so it's worth trying off the bat to see if that's the problem.

Seems more likely

While of course what/how much you eat directly affects your weight, genetics also plays a role. Genes influence your natural metabolism as well as your appetite and the distribution of fat on your body.

That being said, just because obesity runs in your family certainly does not mean you are doomed to be fat. You are probably eating more than you realize and overestimating how much you exercise. I suggest you actually try counting calories, and increasing the amount of exercise you do everyday.
