Hey /fit/,
Since im in my med faculty i don't do any sport at all, i recently started doing 60 push up every night before taking my shower to keep an "allrite" top, but i feel like i need cardio. Im not fat, in fact im 6'4" for 176lbs, i just feel like running, like i used to do on the beach back then in California. The thing is, i don't have any running shoes anymore, any good, cheap brand i should go for ? I was gonna go with Asics, but who knows, maybe you guys know something better ?

Get what is comfortable, light, curved at the front/flexible. Running shoes should last several years if you aren't constantly soaking them or changing foot size; meaning they are all cheap.

I like New Balance, but Asics are quality shoes. I've heard good things about Mizuno too.

Go to a specialty store and use their foot measuring machine. It'll check where you apply the most pressure when you move. Then have one of the employees get you a shoe that is specially padded in that area. You should expect to spend about $80, but you MIGHT be able to get lower.

The most important thing is getting a shoe that is properly padded, though.

You could also run on padded ground, also known as non-pavement.

New Balance is good for people with wider feet, but the shoe itself is kind of stiff. Not a bad brand overall though, better than Nike.

No. Padding is not really preferable. In fact, the best way to run is barefoot.

is one source, but basically the more expensive shoes are wastes of money. They don't protect you from injury anymore than cheap shoes.

In fact, Dr. Maffetone, an endurance athletics guru, who's trained many ultramarathon and Ironman champions, says he trains in $10 shoes.

I spend like $40 or less on athletic sneakers. Never had a problem, played sports all through high school, workout 6 days a week now, including elliptical, some jogging, etc.

Though the Nike Airs or whatever, that they let you custom design, look cool and are supposedly really flexible, which may be closer to running barefoot than anything other than actually running barefoot.

Howdy, Retail shoe fag here.

first off, the nub that said a shoe should last seven years has never heard of a thing called compression set.

Second, Pressure test machines do nothing to see what the foot is doing in a dynamic state. Get yourself to a proper shoe store that does gait analysis. heck, if you where in toronto, canada, i would hook you up.

Asics, New balance, Saucony and Mizuno are the top 4 in the world in terms of the BEST running shoes. Nike sucks, period.

Do you need the best? Probably not. I'm guessing since you're going to running maybe 3-4 times a week, a mid range shoe should do the job. Expect to pay approx $110-$140 CAD (50-80 usd) Look for good flex grooves on the bottom of the shoe, that only the toe flexes, and not structures proximal to the medial longitudinal arch. basically, if your flexing behind your met. heads, kiss your Plantar Fascia bye bye.

Hope this helps, enjoy!

Saucony has quite a few low priced models of shoes.

I would certainly suggest going with them; they are hard to beat. And they're definitely superior to asics.
