hello /fit/,

I am 19 years old and pretty damn scrawny. I am skinny, but the kind of skinny where you can see nothing but ribs. My arms are also very thin.

Basically, im fucking sick of looking like a complete pussy and am looking to add significant muscle mass to my entire body. However, I am lost as to where I should start.

I have heard that squats are a great way to add muscle fast but what all will they improve? Should I combine them with benches/curls for added arm mass? Any links or suggestions would be great. I also have a protein powder to supplement my workouts

Hm, I usually write these kinds of sites off as dangerous/bullshit, but there's actually a lot of really good stuff on there. Not OP, but thanks for the link.

You're just going for straight mass?

20 rep squats, look it up.

Dude, if you're as skinny as you say, forget about heavy weight lifting for now. that will only burn what little mass you have.

you just need to fucking eat. eat everything in sight, tons of protein and fat. milk is great. once you've risen to a healthy weight, then i would start with the weight lifting.

Suggesting 20-rep squats to a beginner? Don't you know they don't have enough pain tolerance?

If you're skinny you need to lift to gain weight. I am 105 lbs if i eat and dont lift. Even at 5 meals a day.

I can get to 130-140 if i lift.

OP here,

that website looks great, also thanks for the feedback from everyone else. I intend to start right away but any suggestions on how many times a week I should workout? I have created a workout routine that I will try based off the information from the link, but I dont want to over-do it.

Just make sure there's 36 hours in between working the same muscle (that is, if you are truly *working* it).

Don't forget to eat clean.
You'll see some amazing results, pretty quickly if you are doing it right.

there's a difference between being malnourished and simply being slender and lacking muscle mass. if the guy can see his own ribs, i'd guess it's the former.

maybe i don't fully understand, explain how putting strain on an already hungry body is a wiser choice than first achieving a healthy weight through nourishment, and then beginning weight lifting.

Do you consider long-distance runners to be malnourished?
