Ellipticals Vs. Treadmills Captain Fantastic
I've heard that treadmills are better for and preferred by athletes, but I've also heard that joint wear can develop over time. I'm training to be a soccer player, and I have a treadmill at home.

My university has both treadmills and ellipticals, and either option is open, and really, it's no big inconvenience to go to my university.

So, should I use a treadmill, or an elliptical? Or should I alternate?

I would eventually be doing 8-12 miles on the treadmill every other day. What would be the equivalent on the elliptical?

Also, I don't care about the elliptical's arm working, I do that with weights.

Pic very related. It's a fucking elliptical machine.

A recumbent bike is pretty much no joint wear whatsoever. Use that if you care enough.

I'm not an expert, so take what I say with a grain of salt but in my experience, the elliptical isn't very close to a natural running style, it's uncomfortable for me to run on one.

Obviously, a treadmill is going to require you to run in your normal style, for better or worse. Unless you're heavy or have some sort of unknown damage, the running shouldn't be a problem. Just remember that training through injuries doesn't prove anything, making them worse is pointless and can lead to lifetime damage.

As for your eight to twelve mile running regimen, I don't quite understand that distance. If you're going that far, it seems like you should be running harder. Just running and running isn't as helpful to training your stamina and speed as running harder would be.

That's not what you asked but I decided to address it anyway.

So distance is bad? Go for speed?

What could I cut it down to?

Ellipticals are for pussies and girls, use a treadmill like a man.
