What are some good exercises to improve back strength?

why wide-grip? I've heard that just limits your range of motion and puts unnecessary stress on your rotator cuff.

I dunno why not wide grip... but I'd do EVERY GRIP.

Do some wide gripped to bring in the lats more... do some overhand, underhand, mixed grip, close grip, wrist grip, ONE ARM FOR 20 etc.

Change your grip up regularly for maximum back and grip strength.

Deadlift and squat as well.
