So I started a low carb high protein diet and the entire day I felt so fatigued, tired, and sleepy. Is that supposed to happen?

Quit the diet. Eat satisfying meals. Don't eat snacks, and if you do try to limit it to one snack a day. Exercise (even simple things like using the stairs instead of the elevator, or parking on the far end of a parking lot).

Diets don't work. It's basic math. If you want to lose weight you must eat less calories a day than your body burns in a day. Eat less means less caloric intake. Exercise more means more calories burned.

Burn less than you consume. Profit.


You can do this easily by: Not eating junk food, trying to eat healthy food when you can, don't snack as much, drink more water, AND EXERCISE WHEN YOU CAN.


Congratulations, do those things, regardless of how MUCH you do them or to what degree, and you'll get into better shape if you take in less than what you burn.

for the past x number of years you have been living on carbs as your primary energy source, i suggest eating more fats (olive oil, red palm oil, coconut oil, lard/tallow/butter from pasture fed animals). you will still be lethargic for up to a month, then your body will become more efficient at burning fat as the primary energy source rather than carbs.

it will be hell for the first few days, maybe weeks.
Make sure to include a carb spike day once or twice a week (high carb, low fat, high protein), and for the remaining 5-6 days follow the high protein high fat low carb thing.
If you cant handle it, then just switch to a 40-30-30 diet of 40 % carbs, 30% protein and 30% fats every day.

Low carb diets are VERY tough to sustain energy with, and can cause mental fatigue at times. Drink green tea or black coffee every so often to keep your energy up.
If anything, consult a nutritionist to figure out exactly how many carbs a day is good for you, and how many grams of fat you need to consume every day
