I always wondered if Energy drinks were bad for you. They always say "GOOD FOR SPORTS". Yet coaches says drink like Soda and Coffee are bad for you. So please, can you clear this up for me /fit/? Are Energy Drinks actually bad for you?

Energy drinks and soda are filled with refined sugar of all kinds. They're terrible for you. Coffee is ok, but you shouldn't be drinking more than 2-3 cups a day.

sports drinks are loaded with salt and sugar. if you are actually playing a high-energy-output sport, and need a quick pick-me-up, that sugar and salt can be a quick replenishing of sugar (for quick energy) and salt (for losses of salt from sweating).

however, the quick sugar does have a crash at the end (just watch the end of a sugar high on a young child for an example of the kind of crash i'm referring to), but hopefully your game is done by then.

now, sports drinks outside that frame of reference: similar to drinking a lot of sugary soda. so downing a quart of gatorade every hour while playing WoW is not an ideal health proposition.

Nothing is bad for you unless you're a vicious retard who over consumes, but the fact is that there are nutritional choices that are miles better than any soda or sports drink which provide nothing and zero benefits to your workout. Coffee can also be quite a beneficial stimulant if you're, again, not a vicious moron who drinks 8 cups a day.

This man knows what he is talking about. For sports, a sport drink is good for a quick energy boost. Water is the best thing that you can consume. If you are going to drink sport drinks its important you do so in moderation.
