Hey there /fit/ /b/tard trailing in for some suggestions about my acne.

Well to start It mostly consists of blackheads and blemishes. Im 18 going on 19. Ive tried many different things, stridex, noxema, proactive, mirad, these bare mineral treatments, many other generic brand scrubs and such.

My diet is decent, mostly chicken, pastas, veggies generally well balanced. I dont work out that much maybe only like 20 minutes a day consisting of pull ups, push ups, and sit ups.

Any suggestions of things I could try? from scrubs to different diets?

My prognosis - take double the recommended dose for roacutane. Taking the prescribed amount will take 4-8 months to heal teh acnez so taking double will reduce it to 2-4 which is ideal :)

benzac ac is the same as proactive but much cheaper
it's benzoyl peroxide in both

stop scrubbing
start moisturizing

go to the doctors and get accutane

Pssst... taking double doesn't halve things in medicine

Then you need to see a dermatologist.
If you can't afford that, what you want to do is steam your face for about 10 minutes. Get a hot washcloth and put it on your face. This will open your pores and make them easier to clean. Then use an exfoliating scrub. Splash your face with cold water to close your pores again so more dirt doesn't get into them during the night after you've finished. Only exfoliate twice a week or your skin can get really irritated. Also, oxy pads I've found work.

You're still in the late throws of puberty and as such there isn't much you can do about acne outside of accutane. You can use all the bullshit scrubs washes gels peels you want but it won't rid you of it. All that stuff is pushed on you in the media to get you to believe it can actually work.

I can tell you this with authority because I battled with acne as a teenager for a good 6 years trying all sorts of stupid products and even home remedies wanting so badly to rid myself of it. Then I took a 6 month course of accutane when I was 18 and I know have pretty perfect looking skin. To this day I still only wash my face with warm and cold water and haven't seen a single pimple since -touch wood-

Dude, your acne is fine. Shit clears up.

Precisely. Anything short of isotretinoin treatment (=Accutane) will have no permanent effects. You'll have to continue whatever method works for you until the acne goes away on its own, which might not be until you're 25 or it might be in one year. The point is that you can't know when it's going away, so the logical thing to do would a treatment with permanent effects.

Go see a dermatologist.

Find a dermo and get some pill for it. I started taking pills like for a week now and they're working like magic.

Try not washing your face so often. When I had trouble with acne, I found the specialized detergents aggravated my condition.

I my mom's "old school" suggestion and used plan bar soap and my hands to wash my face, and only once a day. She said not to use a towel as it would open all the pores and let the oils from the skin clog them again. The key was to finish washing with cold water as it helps to close pores.

Supposedly acne is much more common now days due to our diets. Considering my experience, I think many acne detergents, when used too often, hinder the healing.

Best of luck!

Try this.

Go with Accutane, buddy. Acne does not just "clear up" especially if you've had it bad for a long time. I started an Accutane regimen a month ago and my face has drastically improved. My chest is getting better and my back (where it's the worst) is starting to clear up, and that's only a MONTH, out of the average 4-5 months it takes.

The only really nasty thing it does is leave your face and lips dry, cracked, and painful. A little moisturizer and chapstick takes care of that and it's a small side effect to deal with considering you're getting rid of your acne.

Try switching washing poweder and softner for a different brand/non bio.

You've already covered the diet angle it seems.

Just try one thing at a time and monitor it. It may be unavoidable, but then it might be something to do with your diet or environment or activity... doesn't hurt to experiment.

try some peeling twice a week too

Acne sufferers often think that they have very tough skin.
The opposite is true, DON'T RUB.
DON'T use sharp cleaners.
Get a ph-skin-neutral washing gel.
It'll take a while, but in the long run your skin will get better.
With aggressive stuff like alcohol you only destroy your skin's natural defense, which makes the acne even worse.

Rice water

I'm serious

Wash the rice. Then put it in a clean bowl. Put clean water in the rice. Let it sit in the fridge or a cool spot. Wash your face with it. Repeat (change the rice each day)

Also use some feminine stuff to clean your face Oil of Olay and shit.
