I'm gonna go ahead and take on a sensitive subject here.

Psychiatric medication. yay or nay?
Is it possible to live without the stuff?(Apparently I'm bipolar, I've been on anti-depressants since 2001)
>> Anonymous
Cho would say yes, it's possible to live without medications. But he is dead now.

why so serious?

Just don't want to start a shit storm, I'm actually quite serious about quitting antidepressants, if possible.
>> Anonymous
yay.

Without my medication I'd be a hikikomori, living alone with my cats, avoiding every social contacts at all cost, basically just lay on my bed and spit to the ceiling.

Currently I'm on Prozac 60mg, Opamox 15-45 mg and Seroquel.. can't remember the dosage. Been eating meds little over a year now and my quality of life has improved A LOT despite that my depression has gotten even worse and worse.

Wow, so you're getting worse while they pump you full of meds... makes perfect sense... let's just keep prescribing you more while there is negative change!

You really need to go see another psychiatrist.

Well, it's not exactly like that. With my medication I've become more social, open and able to take care of my daily things such as taking a shower or even jump out of the bed. Not to mention that now I'm able to sleep too!

But why the situation has gone worse overall is because I can't afford therapy on my own and the social services consider me to get any financial support.

i was put on anti depressants and it only got worse, soon later i started developing psychosis and schizophrenia due directly to the shit they put me on in the first place. after 5 years in and out of hospital i went off them 1 year ago and it was the best decision i ever made.
not trying to be a cunt but the best thing u can do is take responsibility for your own mental health, man up and stop feeling sorry for yourself, if depression comes and u ignore it and do something it'll be gone within a day, if u dwell on it it will be with you for months, its that simple

I have the feeling that Psychiatrists are more about pushing meds on patients than curing them. When ever I go to the Psych office, he'll say "So you need more meds?" and that'll be that.

Do these doctors get kickbacks for selling meds?
Glorified drugdealer?

Ignoring depression doesn't work. If you can do that, you were not actually depressed in the first place.

You know, you hear alot of shit on 4chan, but sometimes someone actually says something useful. Thanks.
Have some tits.

You can't really ignore it but you can distract your mind or force yourself into a mental reality check. Unfortunately, this can sometimes just make you want to become an hero even more but if you have even one close person who'd be negatively affected by your death then try harder to not fucking do it.

Anyway, I have no idea OP. For the real serious shit, I'm sure meds or necessary. However, I personally am not really into the pill scene. Of course, I could be considered suicidal and don't believe in longevity or self-preservation for the long run.

yeah go fuck yourself, i spent years in hospital staring at the walls barely able to keep my eyes open, not from sedation but because the depression was too bad, what you just said is a cop out, all these depressed people saying they cant be fixed and theres no hope, its just the sickness making you think that way.

to the op, if you go off the meds cold turkey expect the worst 4 - 5 months of your life from withdrawals, if u can get away with it just sleep the months off : )

Yes, you can live with it. But sense your levels are off, you are not going to live WELL. They help to balance whatever it is that is setting you off, and really, there is no shame in that.

There is no such thing as ignoring mental disorder.

I have a friend who suffered from major depression during her early teen years- she took meds and is now doing much better.

It's a chemical imbalance and there are drugs that can help. But it's not a cure, it's simply assisting you get back on track to fight it.

I can't really say much else because I've never had depression, but I can say she gets very defensive when I start downplaying antidepressants- and she hardly gets defensive about anything.

I sound exactly about your friend. One thing about prozac, is even though I stopped taking it a couple of months ago, I'm much much less aggressive then I was before I started taking it. And I'm starting to feel very depressed again.

It's a crutch no different than any other drug, legal or il .

I'm starting to consider having a chat with a psychiatrist for some kind of antipsychotic, because I'm sure I have some kind of psychotic disorder.

Don't let them put you on seroquel man, that shit is fucking wack. It gave me restless leg syndrome (which is what it was supposed to be helping with a bit) it made me eat like no tomorrow due to appetite it made me grouchy as fuck the next day and very irritable, plus if your insurance doesn't cover it it's 500 a month or some shit. It does give you some nice feelings at the same time, but it's not fucking worth it I say.

And what's so bad about a crutch that can vastly improve your quality of life?
>> Anonymous
>>52259
Crutches doesn't make you weak. Sometimes they are to be seen as canes or even wheelchairs, for there are those of us out here who absolutely 100% cannot function happily without our medication. Having a crutch isn't a bad thing, especially if your leg is broken. Only in most peoples cases the leg (depression) will never heal, and then assholes like you will come along and decry our feebleness as a self-delusion. Do me a favour and go fuck yourself, then kill yourself.

I started taking Prozac about a year and a half ago for depression, and it balanced out how I was feeling for the most part. For the past three or four months I haven't been taking it and I feel like complete and utter shit every minute of every day.

Don't even get on them.

You're supposed to taper off of drugs, even ones like that, aren't you?
