Hey /fit/, I'm not sure if this is the best place to ask this, but I'm sure there's someone here that can help me.

I'm trying to decide between taking judo and brazilian jiu jitsu. i enjoy grappling and throwing when I fight, so I figure those two are my best bet. I like judo just being a sport revolved around fighting, and not getting the absolute shit beat out of you (compared to MMA and whatnot). I like jiu jitsu since it looks like it would be more useful if I were to ever get into a fight should I dare travel outside of my room. Note that i wouldn't be taking judo considering it to be a complete self defence program.

I'd also consider taking aikido, but there doesn't seem to be a school around where I live, so that's off the list.

This is the school I'd be going to. Please tell me anything that would help.

Haha. I was thrown around in the marines quite a bit. I'm not that bothered by it.

judo = ultimate streetfighting art. drop someone on their head on concrete, fight's over.

juijitsu = probably worst streetfighting art. go to the ground, get kicked in the head by the guys friends.

both are great fun to do for sport and competition though.

BJJ's the easiest way to take someone out in 1 on 1, sometimes 2 on one. any more and your fucked

Haha. BJJ = "Basically Just Judo." Judo has a ground game, and many judo players have beaten Gracies and other BJJ practitioners under various rulesets, including none. Go on wiki and look up Masahiko Kimura for one.

Pick the class that fits your schedule, budget and location best. Pick a teacher with a good competition record or who turns out competitors. If he's BJJ, it's really easy to check his credentials, but he'll probably cost about three times as much as the Judo school.

tl:dr, Judo and BJJ are equally useful, Judo might be cheaper. Good luck.

I'm also interested in these two. What I'd trully like to do is judo, but jiu jitsu is all that's currently available to me. I was wondering if there would be any carry over if I were able to take up judo at a later time.
