Okay /fit/, quick question:
My gym is so shitty they don't even have a free barbell, but as I'm still in 18 and in high school, it's all I can go to. Instead they have a smith machine, which I have had to use for bench and squat. Yes, I know you're raging as you read that, but whatever. I'm 6'0", 160 lbs, bench and squat on the smith are 220 and 320 respectively.

Anyway, I managed to sneak into my friend's gym (they actually care about not letting members in there) where they do have a proper squat cage and olympic bar for bench press. Obviously, my stabilizing muscles were shit from barely using them, but I did pretty good considering my little to no experience with the free bar. My bench max was 190 and I worked up to 5 reps of 250 squatting.

I think I may be able to get back in there once a month or so to check my progress, and I have a decent abs workout, so tl;dr: If I continue to progress with the smith, will my max on the free bar with benches/squats increase? Also, inb4 the millions of disadvantages to the smith, I know all too well...

That's pretty good for squatting with the free bar for the first time dude.

OP here, bump for help. My fear is that my abs won't strengthen as fast as my legs and chest, so that my free bar max won't increase with my smith one. Also, yeah I was pretty happy with that squat. Luckily my friend is like a fitness freak, so he helped me with my balance issue. Found it helps to keep your eyes on your own eyes in the mirror for some reason.
