After spending a day in a lake, being an idiot, and generally overdoing it, I'm at the point were it causes me pain to lift my arms higher than my shoulders.

I have been to see my doctor, because not having vertical motion in your arms certainly isn't normal, and he told me that it would be fine and to just take painkillers (i.e. ibeprofin)

So my question is this:
Hows does /fit/ deal with stiff muscles?

tl;dr -- My shoulders hurt so bad I can't lift my arms. Help?

So - you got tired arms, just because you spent the day swimming? And then went to the doctor about it? What the fuck.

no, don't stretch.
Soreness means muscle damage.
Muscle damage + stretching = MORE MUSCLE DAMAGE.
Just rest, take a warm bath, eat protein.

If it's muscle soreness, and (very) light workout of the affected area can help bring blood to the area, healing it faster.

If it's joint soreness/a scraping feeling, you probably screwed something up and should take a few days off.
