Are there any documented risks associated with eating one's boogers? I've been doing it since preschool, but I don't know why, and I tend to do it unconsciously. Has there been any research done on this? I think booger eating is pretty gross, but God help me, I can't stop doing it.

Yeah, but it's not dried out with hairs and dirt in it.

Snot is there as sort of a filter for your nose so terrible things will not go into your lungs.
In other words, you're breathing in pure concentrated evil.
But snot is high in protein or calcium apparently.

Go for it then, I don't think any scientists are going to waste their time with something like this

It helps your immune system. Boogers are filled with dead bacteria. I read it somewhere. Ask lord google

You're essentially giving yourself a weak inoculation each time you eat snot.

Tastes good, good for you.

I still can't bring myself to do it in public though.

Taste like boogers to me. Then again, I can't think of anything that tastes like a booger besides a booger. It's not a bad taste, though.

The only thing I've ever heard is if it gets stuck on the roof of your mouth it can cause an infection. My mother is a dental assistant and said she's only seen it happen once, but it was pretty serious....though as long as you're not a 5-year-old, it should be a non-issue.

This is true. That's why kids have the natural instinct to do it. It's one of those things that works for our body but is shunned by society. Eating the bacteria helps your body immunize, but we ditched this instinct and developed immunization injections instead.

Any bacteria will be killed in your stomach, the first part of the body's immune system. You swallow snot naturally all the time.
