why do ppl say sodium is bad for you?

i fucking luv salty stuff...have some high-end sea sald i like to put on stuff sometimes...

Sodium causes water retention, which can be deadly if you have high BP or congestive heart failure. If you're otherwise healthy, there's no reason not to use salt.

Sodium regulates alot of intracellular transport and is required for nerve signaling and filtering water from blood in the kidneys. Its bad because too much can adversely effect those reasons, in extreme cases it can cause dehydration and muscle spasms.

There was a time when sodium was hard to obtain in the diet, which is why the body likes it so much. Horses and livestock are often given blocks of salt to lick because their grazing diets are insufficient in sodium.

Sodium in and of itself isn't bad for you. The problem is most people take it far too much, sometimes two to four times what is healthy. It's very easy in an American style diet to get too much sodium, and not be able to get it out of your system as quickly as you should.

FDA suggestions that 2400mg is normal for a 2000 calorie a day diet.
