Do you live in a big city? I'm from a smaller town, myself, and I got an unpleasant surprise when I tried to drink the water after I moved up here. There's so many water treatment plants around here that the water has this nasty chemical taste. I drank a lot of Kool-aid before I got my filter.
Personally, I'd suggest getting a water-filter. Either a pitcher-model or one of those dealies that goes on your sink. Personally, I'd say get a pitcher, because the sink-models occasionally pressurize, which means you have to take them off, open and close the valve to release the pressure (spraying water everywhere...) and they're just a bitch to put back on once you've taken them off.
