Soy Protein for Men Anonymous
/fit/'s opinion on soy protein for men?

I try to keep a high protein diet to compliment my lifting routines. I've heard random bits about too much soy protein being bad for men (lowering serum testosterone levels, etc)

I do supplement my high protein/meat diet with whey protein, but I also enjoy the taste of soy/veggie burgers and they've got pretty good nutrition facts.

What is your opinion on the issue of men eating soy-based foods for muscle growth? In my limited research I came across this article which says there is no problem: http://weighttraining.about.com/b/2007/11/02/no-problems-with-soy-protein-supplements-in-new-study.h

All that study says is that it's safe to eat. Whatever, you feel good about it then eat it. It's not the best protein profile for human consumption.

personally, i stay away from soy. it is evil. it is the spawn of the devil. it is the snake of bodybuilding who tells you to eat the apple from the tree.

not only that, but the phytoestrogens it contains has been proven to facilitate angry outbursts in people.

andi also hear that the phytoestrogens keep you from retaining musclemass. i googled that, i'm not sure how credible that information was.

but the angry outburst thing, believe it.

better safe than sorry, right? just don't supplement/eat soy. there's a shitload of things you can take to replace it anyway.

Soy protein helps keep your metabolism up when on a low-calorie diet (thus burning more fat).

no they don't. all the studies released by the soy board say it's safe to eat. but they also got into licensing problems with the fda and had to change their proposal to get it listed as a heart safe or something. and when i was eating it my voice would go up everytime i consumed it, i would get headaches, lethargy and the gym became a fucking nightmare. also my bodyfat went up. and yes, angry outbursts as well.

it most definitely does not.

as an aside, americans eat more soy every year than asians ever have. don't eat soy.
