Help /fit/.

I made a stupid mistake during a BJJ tournament that cost me a 1st place trophy and I feel pretty shitty about it. I trained 4 months straight for this tournament. How do you guys deal with losing?

You're a failure, accept it.

He won by 2 points. He kept stalling by putting me in his guard and just holding me there until the time ran out.

You could call him out and beat him down in a rematch of some sort.

Option 1:You compete to be better than others
Solution to losing: Get a picture of him. Go to Staples and have them print out a big copy, or do it yourself by tiling. Pin it to your wall, ideally where you work out. Use it as motivation to get better and win next time.

Option 2: You compete to overcome and improve yourself.
Solution: Analyze the event over and over until you understand why he won (in all the tiny details), why you lost (again, in all the details). Keep doing it until you don't have an emotional response to it and also understand the whole thing such that you won't make the mistaken again (and can do it yourself if it will get you the win).

So, are you trying to smash his ego or your own?

>Option 1: You're a creepy son of a bitch

>Option 2: You have OCD

Option 1 is people with self-esteem problems.

Option 2 is normal people.

Learn not to make a stupid mistake next time. Try again.

The rest is just venting.

I once broke some dude's arm during a tournament. That shit made me feel terrible.

Deal with it by learning a real fighting style, like boxing.

If you didn't do it with intent then why feel guilty?

Do what Bruce Lee or Rocky Marciano did.

Live, eat and breathe your training.

Or just be mediocre and float into another hobby you'll be second-best at.
