Egg protein or Whey protein?
Or other kinds of supplements?

A buddy of mine said that the egg protein made him terribly flatulent, and that it was terribly foul smelling. But that the benefits were greater.

Any validity to his statements?

Lots of people use ON Whey with great results. ON Whey also tastes awesome, especially the Milk Chocolate flavor (with milk or water).

Ok, so one vote for whey, but is it better'n egg?

Also what other choices are there?

Whey because it can be used right after a workout for quick absorption low calories and during the day after adding other stuff for extra calories.

So egg absorbs slowly?

Maybe though egg is more "complete" so it's more soluble and you might see some good results.

I've only tried it once and it DOESN'T taste really good and i've had some bad whey powders. also last time I checked Egg protein was lot more expensive. so for me it doesn't work well

According to their website, casein is slow, but soy seems best, of those three. Also cheaper.

One isn't really better than the other; it's just that there is a time when each should be used.

Whey (fast digesting) is good for a post-workout meal, and casein (slow digesting) is good for a pre-bed meal. I have never heard about anyone using egg protein, but since it is between fast and slow digesting it can be used mostly whenever.

Ok, so, what would you figure is a good daily routine, using any combination of the 4 kinds (whey, egg, soy, casein)? Also, I hit the gym at around 7pm.

Whey right after working out, and then casein right before bed. Casein can also be replaced with cottage cheese (if it is cheaper) since it is a slow digesting protein as well.

I have heard that soy protein isn't too great if you are body building since it isn't a complete protein - but if you aren't actually going for "body building" you could take it.

My brother just uses whey and casein and he is into body building. So just those two should do you good, as long as you are still taking in enough protein from other sources (grilled chicken, fish).

So, I don't take any protein before my [non-boby building] work out?

It isn't essential to have anything before working out, but if you wanted to the right kind to use would be whey.

Oops, actually you won't need casein if you aren't actually body-building. Whey should do the trick.

Casein/a slow digesting protein before bed helps build muscle though.

Ok, so, if I can afford both soy and casein protein, that's what I'll be taking. Soy after the work out and casein before I hit the hay.
Another issue might be diet. I only get 4 meals a day. Usually Special K for breakfast, whatever it is school (I'm a teacher) is serving for lunch, and usually some kind of meat (pork chops have become all too common in my home) accompanied with rice. After my workout, so usually around 8:30, I eat 4 or 6 eggs.

How to improve this?

Whey after workout and soy/casien during the day/ before sleep.

I don't get why so many supplements are needed unless you're a pro-bodybuilder. cottage cheese unlike casein is cheaper and slow digesting.

You are eating Special K for breakfast..that should be your top thing to fix if you want to build muscle.
