That's fucking simple. I can do 1000 meters in 14 minutes and I'm a fucking fatass. Seriously, it takes me just as long to run a goddamn mile.
Granted, I'm a great swimmer and a terrible runner... but still.
Just take it easy. 500 meters in 10 minutes is a brisk pace for me. Don't over exert yourself. Focus on your breathing. Make easy but long strokes. Kick very lightly in distance swimming. Kicking only gives you a marginal increase in speed, so it's no use burning yourself out on it.
