Help, /fit/

Been getting in shape since February. I'm 6'2 and started out at about 220. Since then I've shed down to 189 and lost a shirt size along with numerous pant sizes in the process.

Despite scales reading differently and smaller size clothes fitting, my overall figure still looks exactly the same when I look at progress pictures I've taken. It's discouraging as all hell. The love handles never go down and the gut never seems to shrink.

So I turn to you, /fit/. What's the solution? Will things just work themselves out down the road with continued weight loss?

Situps are a good start...

Sit-ups will not help get rid of fat. Overall, lose more fat and the love handles will go down. However, you seem to naturally store quite a bit of fat there so you may find it always carries more fat there. If you build up a big back (and chest) and shoulders it will create a V-shape taper to your upper body, which is nice.

Not working the muscles there won't remove them either.

You need to work them or they won't do anything.

But doing a load of situps isn't going to make the muscles shrink. Also, if he works on building his chest, back and arms he is going to get a good core workout (deadlifts, standing press, bench press etc)

Awesome. My plan has been to try to bulk up a bit once I get thinner (don't want to end up skinny fat, but I hear bad things about attempts to simultaneously lose fat while gaining muscle.) Not sure what to put my target weight at, though, as I'm somewhat clueless about how to estimate it to a close range.

Yeah looking closer I think you're right. Doesn't appear to be flab but his muscles.

Build those chest, back and arms.

I think you are only on a diet and not working out.

Get some exercise. Little by little. By tomorrow, I want you to walk 30 minutes, for a week. Then the next week walk very fast for 30 minutes, keep this for another week.

Then jog, a little, when you are tired, keep walking. And so on.

Weight lifting. The added muscle will change your composition, and aid in metabolism/fat burning, giving you a leaner look. Do it.

Also, you may look fatter tahn you really are, give you skin time to adjust.
