HPV interfering with police or military? (Crosspost) Liam
Sup guys?

So I'm seriously considering either joining the military or police force, and everythings fine for the most part, I had a good GPA, I scored high at MEPS and ASVAB except for the fact I have to have an ortho check my knees to prove I'm not gonna break when I go to fight. (Goddamned Duck Walk...) So umm, I've got a few issues since I tried to enlist. Are ANY of these going to interfere?

1. I have HPV, this is genital warts for the laymen, its not blood-born I don't believe, mostly a contact thing. Will they hold this against me?

2. I saw a shrink for my stress and panic problem, based entirely on my lack of employment. (Seriously), I was never given any medication, just counseling.

3. I backed out instead of going back and just giving them my ortho papers, will the service frown upon me coming back (IE Treat me even more like shit then I'm expecting...)? Or just take me back and be like "Don't leave again."

I was originally going Navy, but really don't feel like spending 6 months on a floating slum. Air Force has some interesting positions but a good friend of my partner's is actually a Medic in the Army National Guard, and told me if I was going to enlist I should go that route or straight Army.

Also, before someone calls me fat about the knee thing, I lost 220 pounds, used to be 420, lots of stress all those years, but its nothing debilitating, I practiced that stupid Duck Walk for a week after getting kicked at MEPS.

I have no money to go to college.

Look for a scholarship or a grant. Also: try looking at how your state college system works. Speak with counselor from various colleges and get the skinny on what your options REALLY are. The whole, "you need a lot of money to go to college" thing is bullshit.

Police= government thug
Military= government murderer.

Do something that makes you a lot of money instead.

Good GPA = financial aid

use the story of how you lost 220 pounds as an essay and you've got it made

Join the military. Make sure you really want it before joining and if you do use every opportunity they have to offer. It's a great experience unlike anything else. You'll meet a lot of great people and maybe find a career for life.

Use that training and whatever the hell else you can squeeze out of the army and apply it to anything else (I.E. Police Force).

You don't need ANY money to go to college. Go to a state school and get a job working for the school, try the library, you get paid to sit there and do your homework basically, you can get free room and board for working a couple of hours a week (thats how it works at UConn and UMass lowell)

Also, student loans are your friend.

Don't worry about school reputations. It is just a ploy to let them charge you more. I am an engineering major and they use the same exact books at UConn and UMass. F=MA in both states, but UMass costs half as much and I have 20-30 kids in my classes instead of 200. It really puts a lot more responsibility on you being in smaller classes as teachers notice if you aren't there and actually learn your name, you also don't have to show ID before you take exams and the TA's speak english.

Free:

-Cooper Union (if you like engineering, architecture, or art)
- Franklin W. Olin (if you like engineering)

If not, there are good deals everywhere. For example, Hunter College (and the other 4-year CUNY's, although Hunter is easily the best deal) in NYC has a scholarship that fully covers tuition, either a free dorm or a comfortable stipend every year, a free apple laptop, and more upon admission to the Honors program.

If you really want to join the miitary, apply to West Point. Free education + 5 years of active service + grad school/career prospects seem like they'd be a win for you...

So uhh, according to /k/, the fact I have a contact STD makes it so I can't join the military anyway.

Never you mind. I'm checking out this Jesus school anon posted though, its pretty spiffy. Thanks for the advice guys, toodles.
