hi /fit/, i'm thinking of buying a dog, the reason is that i hate walking outside because of the general boredom of it.

what type of dog do you guys think i should buy? it have to be a type of dog who needs training every day.
i know from personal experience that boxers need an incredible amount of exercise, but i'm not sure if i want one (they're expensive as fuck)

tl;dr: i want a dog who needs as much exercise as me, help me pick one

I want a dobermann so bad I can taste it.

Very intelligent, very loyal, needs to run.

I get to house sit one in a month

Rescue one - don't set out with buying a pedigree from the shops in mind.

Get one from an animal shelter.

German Shepherds and Labs need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. They're also loyal as hell.

i second you getting a german shepherd. i had to of these growing up and they are mad smart and highly active, so you will get your exercise done. get it as a puppy.

i heard they are kinda aggresive though, but getting it as a puppy would eliminate that

Go to a shelter and adopt a dog: Preferably a puppy. They sleep alot, but they also play a bunch, and house trianing them means lots of in and out for both you and the dog.

get a mutt, some sort of herding dog mix. they are smart and train well, plus they need a shit ton of exercise and stimulus.

I would never have bought a dog to motivate myself to go outside. Why? Because a dog needs a lot of attention. You have to feed it, and it should be walked at least 2 hours a day.

You, with your half-assed attitude, will probably walk him twice, and then just leave him on your porch for the rest of his life. If I was a dog, and got an owner like that, I'd rather burn to death than live a life like that.

My fat lazy roommate just got a dog in part because she wanted to walk with it every day for exercise. She dropped a hefty dime on the thing, plus the continued expenses of maintaining the beast are not insignificant. She pays someone to walk it daily and it's not trained in any form. Plus, she's still fat and lazy.

Revisit this idea in 30 days, if it still sounds like a good plan, go for it. Having a dog can be a big burden, especially if you're just pulling it out for one activity.

Get an angry dog that will bite its own owner. Then get it angry and have it chase after you.

Motivation for running

i've considered this a few times, mostly because a decent sized dog can always, always run faster than you, and it'll make you run faster in turn. then i remembered that i don't want a fucking dog.

Go to the animal shelter and find an energetic thing with big eyes that needs a home.

Ask for the one at the top of the kill list.

You can always kill it for exercise faget
