Hey, /fit/

I'm curious as to the effectiveness of bodyweight exercises. I have some friends that do exclusively bodyweight exercises and they're massive.

Opinions? Experiences? Routines?

Atlas pushups

Bicycle crunch

divebomber pushup

back bridges

L-sit

pushup with hand at waist

Rest and more of the first two

That depends on how hard you make them.

Well one guy tells me that he does this weird pushup workout that's like 400+ pushups total in sets of 7.

He's massive.

So... more sets?

so, obviously their bodyweight is higher than yours. resistance builds muscle. overall i think its pretty effective, look at gymnasts they're super ripped (but fairly small), but because they are so muscular you can't tell.

for fucks sake they're called plyometrics

You're a fucking idiot.

I'd say look into gymnastic conditioning exercises.
A few difficult bodyweight exercises are:
One legged squats
Pullups/one armed pullups
Planche pressups
Dragon Flags
You could build a fairly decent body with just these exercises and be way functionally stronger than a regular curl-monkey.

Define massive.

For some reason, I doubt how big your friends are.

6'7, 260lbs

They're all that size? And all they do is bodyweight exercises?

Plus, what type of body fat percentage is that.

I mean, body weight exercises can be effective up to a point, but eventually you just start to train muscular endurance, and stop getting stronger

It's 5 of them and they're all taller than 6', more than 200lbs and under 8% bodyfat. I can clearly see their obliques and side abs, there's barely anything I can pinch on their bodies when I try grabbing fat with 2 fingers, it's crazy.

They might be playing the lying game with you

No, I've been spending the past month with them and stayed at their place for 2 weeks. No memberships, no weights. Straight bodyweight.

Spending the past month training with them I meant to say.

lol wut

I still don't really believe this, unless they're doing really demanding bodyweight exercises, where they can only really do like 8-12 reps...

Otherwise, they would be the only people I've ever hear of to do it that way

Try doing 12 planche pressups.
but op maybe you should share what kind of exercises they're doing?
