what do i do? Anonymous
I'm not fat, I'm 5 5 and 114 pounds but for some reason I can't see anything resembling abs on me. What can I do?
>> Anonymous
Um, work on your abs?
>> Anonymous
You are weak and have no muscle mass around the body. No pecs, arms, shoulders.

Gain weight for 4 months at least which will include muscle and some fat. then cut back to get the ripped look.

how many calories should I be eating a day? I eat around 1.5-2.5k right now

anyway I thought it was only a low body fat % that made abs show not really anything else?

You have to HAVE abs for them to show.

Yea but you have to get fat% low which means doing cardio and building muscles and that requires eating at last 120 grams of protein (in your case) everyday. Then you have to maintain it which is a different story. Either way you are going to have to fix your diet and add lots of protein and almost little fat to get some abs.

I didn't realise people are missing abdominal muscles? How tragic!

crunches situps (which are bad for you overall) and more crunches. put weights on your chest and crunch them, eat protein, do some more crunches, run. Run for miles well jog really but you know what i mean. for quickest results sprinting probably and crunches, for someone willing to go the distance and keep there figure, long distance running is the way i would recommend. that means 4 miles minimum then some sprinting drills (lke stairs) also stairmasters work. judgin by the picture you might want to get a full body workout. go to a gym, with a partner (motivater) and stay there for at least an hour. set up a workout schedule.
Mines:
Monday- back and biceps
Tuesday- chest and triceps
wednesday-legs
thursday neck and shoulders
Frday- cardio (this means 1-2 hour dedicated to running treadmill stairmaster bike etc.)
and each day ends with an ab workout and a 30 minute cool down run.
God I wish I stuck to that schedule. College is a great unmotivator

I have experience, if you can tell.

Abs are not built by tons of abdominal exercises. To get abs you MUST DO CARDIO. When you have a high body fat percentage (Anything over 9% is high), you may have abs, but they don't show.

Once you can see your abs you can start the hardcore abdominal training. Until then, run, swim, jump rope, etc. Anything that gets your heart rate up over an extended period of time.

Also, cut back on sugar and any fatty foods.

thanks for the help, but what should i eat? just chicken/fish and vegetables?

Weight alone doesn't tell the whole story, I'm a inch shorter and 12 pounds heavier but I have better definition then you (but no six pack yet)

Muscle weighs more then fat, and like it or not even though you're low weight your body fat % is probably still in the teens because it doesn't look like you have any chest and not much arm development

Yeah, and nuts (not too much) and cottage cheese.

I suggest you start your day by running.
After you finish, start eating a small meal (200-500 calories) every 2 to 3 hours that you are awake.
Morning running will kickstart your metabolism and the food every few hours will keep it going.

Eat a lot of protein (lean meats, fish, chicken, nuts, protein powder and bars are good too) complex carbs (whole grains) and some fat (no trans fat or saturated fats)

So far as abdominal exercises go: the bicycle crunch is the most effect work out that you can do.

Best ab exercise? Overhead squats for triples at most, sets anwhere from 6-15.

THAT will build your abs, aswell as alot of other muscles you're very clearly lacking, it'll also increase girth and length.

Oh, and just because you're light doesn't mean you're defined, definition comes from how much fat compared to how much muscle there is, having a tiny bit of both means shit all, you gotta build muscle to see muscle.

If you're dead set on looking good, forget the abs and try and get atleast double bodyweight on the 3 big lifts, come back once you do, and see how much better you look.
