LEWISTON, Maine – Army and Navy recruiters took one look at 330-pound Ulysses Milana and told him to forget about joining. "'You've got to lose weight,'" Milana remembers them saying. But Marine recruiters were willing to work with him as he began his weight-loss journey in December 2007.

People might be suprised, but there's always a certain portion of high school graduates/college students that simply feel compelled to join the military(excitement, travel, love of country, etc.). As long as that pipeline is functioning most recruiters would rather just pick "low hanging fruit" so to speak as opposed to going above and beyond the call of duty investing countless hours into helping someone get their life back on track. What SSG. Monteith did was cool...because he sure as Hell didn't have to.

Again, working with the guy was a cool thing to do. I'm just explaining why most recruiters wouldn't feel inclined to do so. They can grab some kid from high school, do the paperwork, and spank the kid on the ass as they leave for MEPS(Military Entrance Processing) within a matter of days in most cases. It just makes sense for them to work with the easy cases as opposed to the "projects".

What he said, they exist to get people processed into the military, not to help fat-shits change their lifestyles so they can join. Anything you do to help these fat-fuckers (aside from giving them fitness advice or answering questions) is going to be on YOUR time.

When I got out of AF tech school, I took the option of "Recruiters' Assistance". You basically get 2 free weeks of leave in your hometown, you help the recruiter w/ shit M-F 9-5.

I had people berating me, cursing me out, yelling, crying b/c they were too fat to join. Imagine that shit, taking your problems out on someone else.

I wish we had same military opportunities here.
I don't need to lose fat, but it'd be nice to get under bullets in shoes that fit.
