Casein? Anonymous
So i'm a boxer and need to lose a little bit more fat. But on the other hand I want to keep the muscle mass I have now. Boxers tend to burn muscle which is okay with me but i'd rather it be the little fat on my tummy. I take whey after working out and have heard some good things about casein before bed but have some questions. First off should I be taking it at all since I guess i'm in a "cutting" stage? Secondly should I be taking it right before bed? I feel like taking anything right before bed just makes the product turn into stored fat.

Basically my questions concern if taking casein is okay for a combat athlete?

eh i mean, do you lift? if you lift, or do intense excercise, or...ok. this is what you do. if during the day you lift weights, or train super intensely that your muscle needs repair, take casein on those days. if you've just been relaxing or jogging or havn't done anything that you need the extra nutrients at night, forget about it.

There's another thread about this on this board. Go find that one. It answers your question.

Take it before bed, it is designed for you take it before bed because it digests a lot slower than whey protein.

I'm a boxer myself and if you feel like you need to take casein well go for it.

Also concerning the muscle-loss, well i'm still bulking at the moment so i'm not in the same situation as you. However, do you lift ? If you don't start lifting. If you do lift, start lifintg for strenght if it's not what you're doing at the moment.

Lifting for hypertrophy is not wha you should aim for when boxing as it will only add unecessary weight to your body.
