un/fit/ anon here,

So I'm planning on going to gym 2 days out of the week, an hour each time, keeping my heart rate somewhere around 170 bpm. I'm 5'7 and 170lbs, can I hope to lose any weight, or would I have to work out more often then that?

Mix up the cardio, don't just run/swim/eliptical only.

Add some weight training, muscle makes your body burn fat faster.

I'm 20, and they offer free gym memberships at my school, so I'm taking their offer.

I do try to do a mix of everything; although, I've unintentionally been mainly working on my legs, I also plan on working on my chest and stomach.

Honestly, if you're looking to do both cardio and any kind of lifting you'll probably want to go more than 2 days a week

I go 7 days a week

3 chest
2 back
3 cardio

Are you just raising your heart rate and standing there?

You don't need a gym for that.

You should have at least a single day of rest a week.

Go 5 days a week. Get your results faster. And yeah, mix it up so you don't get used to any one type of cardio.

Look into HIIT for more efficient use of your time.

you're kidding, right? a 3-day split with 2 days of cardio is nothing. i'd actually recommend a 3-day split with 5 days of cardio.

>OP, another tip - you want to speed up catabolism, get on a treadmill first thing in the morning before you eat

Fixed

I do the same. 4 day split cause legs and shoulders are done alone.

yeah, that's true. i like to do linear progression with my cardio and my weightlifting, btw. start with 30 minutes at like 65% HRmax, then add 2.5 minutes or 3-4 bpm every workout. or something.
