Accutane? Anonymous
So I have acne and tomorrow I'm going on accutane, or isotretinoin. Does anyone have any stories or personal experience? I know my skin will get kind of dry but how bad?

I used acutane after years of a dematologist dicking around with antibiotics and topicals that didnt decrease zits but made my face red. It was a wonder drug and cleared my condition right up even after I stopped it. Make certain you use a lip balm (your lips will get dry) and watch for hair loss. Also, I had some muscles aches (more than normal) when working out, but the drug was a godsend when my self-esteem was in the shitter. Would highly recommend.

If you're a teenager or in your early 20's and have suffered or are suffering from depression, accutane is generally a bad idea. It tends to make your depression worse.

but I've never experienced it myself, I've only heard that second hand, albeit from a doctor.

The depression side effect is actually pretty rare, it's the liver and kidney damage you really gotta be watchful for.

^ same poster--it helped my depression, since it cleared up the acne like nothing else. But you will need weekly blood work do watch for the effects mentioned above.

Op hurr<<

I've got a tube of Aquaphor for my lips. I honestly think if anything it would help my depression and self esteem, but if it doesn't I know to stop taking it and tell my doctor.
