Kangaroo meat Anonymous
I just got back from the supermarket where I found a section of kangaroo meat.
According to this website:
http://www.macromeats.com/
Kangaroo meat is high in protein and iron and low in fat (98% fat free).
It also has the heart foundation tick (I think this will only mean something to Aussies and NZers)
Also it was much cheaper than beef and is better for the environment as kangaroos don't fart out methane.
I bought some mince of it, and plan to cook some tomorrow. I hope the flavour is nice.

What do you guys think? Could kangaroo meat be the new chicken?

I love chicken but it would be nice to eat red meat sometimes, and this seems pretty good alternative to beef (but with the same goodness of chicken)

Anyway, I just divided the meat into little freezer bags, and it wasn't a pleasant experience. The meat smelled much more strongly than beef and there was a lot more blood. Oh well the real test will be tomorrow when I taste it

>kangaroos don't fart out methane.

>The meat smelled much more strongly than beef

This is because instead of farting it out, Kangaroo absorb that shit smell right into their muscles, enjoy your ass turd meat.

It didn't smell of fart, it just smelt... meaty. Very meaty.

>meaty. Very meaty.

AKA SHIT

>Thanks, do I just cook it the same as beef?

NO, You need to cook it in a lab otherwise the methane shit stank stored within the meat will cause your house to explode and will kill you. TRUST ME I KNOW

this sounds delicious!

any Amerifags w/good connections on this product (for import/consumption)

fasinating. i wonder if its difficult to import to US for food, as people think its 'mean', much like Canadians eat horse, yet its never done in the states, because 'horsies are cute' and 'cows are dum'

I used to eat this stuff daily, along with skinless chicken breast.

I liked it, but my local supermarket stopped stocking it: so now I just make do with beef. What I liked most about the kangaroo was A. the price and B. the fact it has almost zero fat.

tldr: Shit is SO cash.

Hmm I think the problem with sending it overseas would be the price would prob increase to more than beef, which would reduce some of it's charm.

cook it with a little more oil than beef.

PS: i study the environment and kangaroo meat is fucking awesome for the environment.

also im not a hippy and hate peta so thats not swaying my statement.

and peta is against killing kangaroos (and all animals for that matter)

It is awesome, we eat it by the tonne. Try tenderising it, or marinating it, or both.

>Also it was much cheaper than beef and is better for the environment as kangaroos don't fart out methane.

You fool. Greenhouse gas impact from cattle isn't due to farts, it is overwhelmingly caused by the fossil fuel energy and derived products invested in raising and processing the beasts in the quantities that they are. Kangaroo shits all over this problem because in Australia they live off the plants that grow around the place naturally. Some species are in plague proportions. It is cheap, fucking good protein and calories that requires fuck-all energy investment :D

It is very lean so it gets tough quickly.

The best way to cook it is like venison, relatively gentle and in butter.

But since you posted on /fit/, cut it thin, a bit of oil, relatively hot pan, and cook it quickly so that you can heat it through and not have the outside become leathery.

Medium rare is good.

I was at the Supermarket and picked up some awesome marinated kangaroo meat. It cooked up nicely and was super tender. Utterly delicious.
