Suffered a major setback today. I was pleased with progress and assumed i'd be at my target weight by September. However i had been using bathroom scales on carpet since i started, and after getting a few readings that were 2-3 lb +/- i put it on tiles and tried again to get a constant reading.

28lb heavier.

Im seriously pissed now. Its going to take me another 2 months + to shift that. Left feeling totally demoralised from it.

In conclusion - dont be an idiot, use a hard surface for taking your weight.

Forgot to add - anyone done the same thing?

hold on one goddamn minute. If you have been using the scale in your carpeted bathroom the whole time, and are showing a loss of "X" then regardless of wherever you place your scale, you have lost "X". put it back in the bathroom.

The scales were actually in the bedroom under furniture to stop it getting in the way. I know i have lost X, but im going on the assumption that on carpet it is putting less pressure on it giving it a lighter reading than it should be.

well, that explains it then. you are properly fucked. lesson learned. but don't be too hard on yourself. you are moving in the right direction at least.

weight loss goal is a gay, you only need to know your losing. "im 120, i am healthy weight for my height" is a gay. as long as your losing, go by how you look and feel is the best way.

Well its a major setback for me since i was aiming to be ready for the army fitness test by september, now it looks like i wont get there until mid-november. I'm trying tnot to be too hard on myself, but i've been thinking about it every day for the past 4 fucking months, so right now i am extremely pissed and just smashed the shit out of a few cd cases.

The army gives fuck all about your weight and body fat. If you pass your initial fitness test, you're in. The basic training will get you in amazing shape provided you can do the initial test without fail (even if you do fail, they stick you in a remedial training platoon until you can pass, which is going to be shitloads better than any civilian training you tried to do yourself).

Also, it does suck about the scales thing. They're so fucking sensitive that I've made my weight go down by 10+ pounds just by putting light pressure on a wall as I stand on the scale. You have to stand perfectly still with perfect posture and only underwear on to get a really accurate reading. Hell, I've noticed that most of my full length pants/jeans alone weigh at least one pound...weighing yourself fully clothed might add as much as five pounds.

Still though, i'd like to lose a reasonable amount of fat before applying which would mean i need to be around 200lb, which until today i thought was 25lb away, its actually more like 50lb now.

Well, from having had two friends in the Marines, they've told me that basically everything you think you know about yourself is wrong. Once you apply and go to MEPS, they get your weight and body fat professionally on perfectly calibrated scales, you might even do one of those big tub of water tests for body fat depending on how well equipped your MEPS station is.

My one friend did his MEPS in Pittsburgh and they did a water test for his body fat, it was 6% higher than his physician told him it was using the standard caliper tests.

Point is, as much as you want to lose weight, worry more about hitting the standards for your IST. You're going to get into amazing shape from basic no matter what, so just worry about doing your pull-ups, crunches, push ups and two mile run (I think it's two miles for the Army, Marine IST was 1.5 miles).
