Hi /fit/, was just getting into lifting, and have heard nothing but good about Mark Rippetoe’s system, so I've ordered the book.

Had a read through, it all seems to be totally a no bullshit totally common sense regimen. However I'm a totally newbie to the weights room so what do I know?

What are people's thoughts on this system? Surely it has some detractors?

Also, does/has anyone followed this routine? How did it work out for you?

do it

I've done it for a little over two months now and seeing good results. I've gained about 14 lbs of muscle mass and a whole dickload of strength.

My best advice is just to remember to keep proper form at all times. Not only is it more effective but you will be able to lift more weight overall.

What's your training week look like?

What about nutrition? It seems to be omitted from the book, unless I've missed it..

You should probably check this place out rather than listen to m advice, as it's what I've been referencing anyway.

As far as nutrition goes I'm sure it depends on body type. For example, I'm a fairly short ectomorph and so all I really have to worry about is stuffing my face with as much protein as possible.

The routine is great... just make sure to eat big and lift in a linear progressive fashion i.e. ADD MORE WEIGHT EVERY TIME YOU LIFT.

As for nutrition... a gallon of milk a day.

The training week is outlined in the book.

It should look something like:

Week 1:

Mon - Squats / Bench / Deadlift

Wed - Squats / Overhead press / Power cleans

Fri - Squats / Bench / Deadlift

Week two:

Mon - Squats / Overhead press / Power clean

Wed - Squats / Bench / Deadlift

Fri - Squats / Overhead press / Power clean

...And so on.

Just stick to the program and add a few pounds to your lifts everytime you do them... keep good form and you'll get strong in a short time.
