Hey /fit/

Ok, so about a year ago I found out that I have hypothyroidism. If you don't know, your thyroid gland is what controls your metabolism. In my case, I didn't have one, which caused me to be overweight.

Well after a year of medication, more excerise, change in diet, etc. etc. I'm still the same weight. So my question is does anyone know of anything that can help boost your metabolism. I'm not looking for diet pills or anything, since its bad for your heart, but foods and such.

Change in eating schedule helps. Eating 6 half meals a day rather than 3.. but you didn't mention if you were doing that.

Yeah I'm doing that already. And I'm almost a vegetarian now, except for chicken/turkey and fish.

I would see a doctor.

So, no mention of Iodine, the thing that makes the thyroid work. I don't believe you. I believe you "have one", it's just not being nourished well enough. Which is interesting, because a shitload extra Iodine is included by law in standard table salt. You do eat salt, don't you?

and this

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodine#Human_dietary_intake

The United States Food and Drug Administration recommends 150 micrograms of iodine per day for both men and women. This is necessary for proper production of thyroid hormone. Natural sources of iodine include sea life, such as kelp and certain seafood, as well as plants grown on iodine-rich soil. Salt for human consumption is often fortified with iodine and is referred to as iodized salt.

You may not be eating as well as you think you are or exercising as much as you think you are.

Have you back to the doctor's for a new blood test? Your medication dosage could be wrong.
