Abdominal Pain Anonymous
Hey /fit/,

I am 5'10" and 125lbs and I haven't worked out in over 2 years (only worked about 2 months then stopped) and never have been really muscular.. just really thin. I decided to start working out again.

To the point: Two days ago I did 70 sit ups while holding a 10lb dumbbell behind my head and 70 push ups and for the last two days my abs have been in incredible pain. It hurts just sitting here, feels extremely tight, and trying to do sit ups again is extremely painful. What happened?

Sounds like you broke something there!

It's called being sore. The best way to get rid of that is to work the muscles again. 2 days should be enough time for rest, drink lots of water and workout again. After awhile your muscles get used to it and you won't be sore unless you really bust some ass working out.

Is it not a good idea to do sit ups if I'm still in pain while I do them? Should I wait it out until it goes away then start out a little slower or what?

Man the fuck up. Your doms is all about your body going HOLY SHIT, THIS FUCKING MUSCLE WAS USED FOR ONCE IN THE LAST TWO FUCKING YEARS. SOUND THE GODAMN ALARM. You can still work the muscle, no problem. It'll hurt like hell, but cowboy the fuck up. Work through the pain.

70 situps is nothing, and you were likely using your back more then anything else. 70 Pushups is nothing, especially since they weren't consecutive. Shit, son. My EVERY FUCKING DAY MORNING ROUTINE is a pushup pyramid equalling around 100 pushups, and a s hit ton of chin ups and pullups.

tl;dr. Man the fuck up, DOMS is just your body signalling these muscles need to be stronger. Work through the man, it'll heal faster that way. The only time to worry is when joints and tendons hurt.

I wasn't being a pussy about it, I was just wondering if it was healthy/safe to continue. I'm not very good at this, sorry, lol.

I didn't really stretch, either. I'll do that from now on.
