swimfags of /fit/, I require assistance.
I am able to swim freestyle, backstroke, etc for 5000 yards a day no problem, but can't swim butterfly for even 200. I just can't lift my body out of the water, I get too tired. It's pretty embarassing.

Is this due lack of strength, shitty technique, or both? and if it's strength, are there any dry land exercises to get better at it? I'm not on a team, I swim by myself, and have no instructors around me for guidance. HALP

Butterfly is the hardest the master. Work on your butterfly kicks and arm stroke seperately. Flippers can help you smoothe out the technique. I think its mostly your technique you have a problem with. You have to find a nice rhythm before you sail through the water with the butterfly.

kick your legs together like a dolphin's tail. hard. use the momentum to rise up and "pounce" on the water. takes a bit of practise.
