sup /fit/

i'm a senior in high school and i never joined a sport throughout high school, would joining the wrestling team make me buffer? im pretty fat like 180 lbs but would joining the wrestling team and excercising like them also let me lose fat?
>> Anonymous
if you can make it to the level, why not
>> Anonymous
while a bit homosexual for my tastes, i have great respect for wrestlers.

they are a hardy folk, with strong tradition. kinda like how boxing used to be.
>> Anonymous
you're gonna be in a weight category with guys who are 180lbs of muscle and lean mass
>> Anonymous
If you're a senior then it's too late to actually get any good at wrestling, but it will probably be the hardest exercise you'll ever get in your entire life. Go for it.

You'll soon forget the gay feeling once you are focused into it.

O_o

thats the only thing that scares me, i wish i would have started stronglifts when summer vacation started, instead i started when it was over -__- i went from 165 to 180 in just 2 and 1/2 months

im sure that may well be true, but i'm a traditionalist. men only touch when they shake hands and only once. exceptions to this rule are during fighting (which men should rarely partake in) and combat/contact sports (but some are more questionable than others) like the touch is 'more ok' when its going to hurt, much like that Karelin like hip throw shown in OPs pic or during a hit in football/rugby/boxing, etc

No you're just a closet homo.
>> Defender of Shitty Food and Fat Asses !!QfMlHApcUZA
I've taken Judo, which is like Japanese wrestling, and yeah I thought it'd be gay but in reality you're in too much pain or you're too busy trying to not get choked out to think gay thoughts.
>> Anonymous
>>420249
no, i should have put in as a caveat
'i prefer strangers not touching me'
very much the opposite of a wop family gathering.

i'm fine w/judo
>> Anonymous
>>420226
>i'm a traditionalist
I really doubt this, or the idea of wrestling being gay would never have crossed your mind.
>> Negro Sparkle Faggot
Wrestling is gay. Jujitsu is straight.
>> Anonymous
Judo is nice compared to wrestling because everyone wears pants and a jacket.
>> Anonymous
>>420305
But there are also bigger slams, chokes, and joint locks allowed. You start cursing that jacket when your opponent uses it to choke you out.

I NEVER SAID IT WAS GAY
and then i said
> have great respect for wrestlers

i just noted a personal 'distaste' for the nature of it.

fuck you

Judo is tougher than wrestling.
>> Anonymous
Wrestled for 3 years in highschool, boxed for 4.

Wrestling is tough, definitely not something you're going to be good at your first year, and trust me strength isn't the key to wrestling. If matches were based solely on strength I'd be undefeated, I was 140 (140-150 you meet the strongest/faster opponents) I was ALWAYS stronger than my match-ups, although I was undefeated in region, I still lost a bit (my first year).

Anon is correct though, it's an amazing work out, although, I'd almost prefer boxing, when you're training or atleast at our club here, you do about 3 rounds of one thing then switch off to the next, taking 1 minute(?) break periods if I recall, THAT was a work out.
>> Anonymous
>>420382
Me

Also, don't be concerned about your physical condition too much, as long as you train hard you'll be fine for region matches and stuff, now, when you go to State/Tournaments, I can't guarantee you'll make it into finals.

As>>420195put it best, most of those kids are looking for scholarships and have wrestled for 3-4 years if not more some Middle Schools offer wrestling not to mention free style wrestling camps.
>> Anonymous
>>420309
What's this bullshit? You're pretty much saying you think wrestling is gay.

but i understand your need to troll, as everyone has different tastes..

With all due respect sir, this is an idiotic thing to say, and I recommend you reconsider your opinion. Wrestling is a technically and physically challenging sport that deserves a great deal of respect.
>> Shawn Eater !DboU7yuujg
You people are fucking ridiculous. There's nothing homosexual about wrestling or fighting. Only in battle can you know the fullness of life.

only the guy with the long hair seems to have proper control
aren't 80% of those hasty spazms just useless fluff?
>> Anonymous
>>420759
If by proper control you mean having conditioned himself to always pull his strikes and never follow through, then yes. All of this spaz stuff is useless. The need to get themselves some thai pads and go to work on them. Let them learn what it really takes to have power and speed at the same time.

Or some good old fashioned aliveness. Get some sparring up in that bitch.
>> Anonymous

The probably already think they're sparring.

Most wrestlers are ferocious fighters, because they had their psyches tortured by the intensity of wrestling practices at a young age. Pain tolerance is ingrained; teach them some basic striking skills and they're unstoppable.

lol lrn2 reply, wrestlings only good with allot of rules applied to the match, ina street fight its fucking useless, only for one or two takedowns and by then your had a right hook to the ear.

Just because you wrestle doesnt mean your da STUNGEST MAN IN DER WURLD.
>> Anonymous
>>420814
You should tell that to some of the wrestlers I know who are absolute monsters during bar fights, tossing and slamming guys like crazy. Apparently they didn't get the memo that wrestling is useless.
>> Anonymous
>>420814

I'm stronger and faster than most people. And if someone fucks with me in the pub, I'm kicking his fucking teeth in. No 'lol why u punch me thas against da rulez'

>>420826

You just keep telling yourself that, Mr. Internet Tuffguy. Meanwhile you'll be getting picked up and tossed on your pretty little head. Striking is cool and all, but if some wrestler grabs you and puts you on your back, you're done. And they will put you there - it's inevitable.

While no fighting sport is even close to real fight it should be noted be noted that almost all real fights end down on the ground. Consequently wrestling certainly teaches some real life skills.

>> Anonymous

Most of those types can't even take a real fall onto a nice padded floor.

In contrast, just last week I fell off my bike, and was basically diving head first towards the pavement. I caught myself, rolled, and walked away with only a slightly bruised wrist.

many people under estimate the cardio of wrestling.
Basically, if you're like how you describe, you'll be vomiting after each round or during it.

But nonetheless, I say go for it. Just go to all the practices but don't expect to win any matches and if you do, good for you, but there'll definitely be people in your weight catagory that are pound for pound muscle.
