So, I hear it's good but is it effective? Is it worth the high calorie/fat content or should I try %100 optimum whey for muscle growth?

Muscle Milk: Good for bulking and good for its taste.

ON 100%: Good for cutting and good for its mixability.

Designer Whey: Tastes eatable.

It depends on how you exercise, your body type, and your goals. To put on muscle (and you don't care about that zomgsixpack) then eating lots of calories is perfectly fine and a lot of times required. Take my body example, I eat a lot of crap but never put on weight. I would need to eat at least a cow a day to put on mass.
