Hi /fit/!

I've had this horrible habbit for the past couple years of not shaving my face, but instead taking a pair of tweezers and individulaly removing each hair folicle. I have no idea how horrible for my skin this is, but I'm sure it's letting in all sorts of bacteria and other crap leading to acne and stuff. I can't stop though. It's too much fun, and I really enjoy the feeling of having hair pulled out of my face. It doesn't hurt (in most places), it just feels good.

Unfortunately, I've gone to great lengths to get that feeling. On MANY occasions, I've actually taken the tweezers and dug into my face in order to get a better grip on a hair and pull it out. Those always feel the best, but they end up bleeding and the result is that my face is now full of scars. Very tiny scars.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get rid of this weird ass addiction?
Also, are there any remedies to scars that actually work?

Picture not really related, other than the face part.

Force yourself to stop. You got a brain, you should be able to control it.

You live in your brain, take control of it.

Read the wikipedia article on it. This should help inform you on how to do deal with it.

But my brain is stronger than me...

Throw away your tweezers. Go ahead, do it now, I'll wait.

Done? Good. Now get in your car and go to WalMart. Buy you some shaving cream and a 8 pack of razors. Drive home. Shave.

Oh my god... I never expected that to exist.

I do have some razors, and I do use them occasionally when they grow faster than I can pluck them, but once the stubble starts appearing, I always go back to excavating my face.

You're permanently damaging hair follicles doing this. When you're older you'll want a beard. And you will never be able to grow one.

Should have shaved if you want a baby face. You'll have one forever now.

Um..you are your brain, all your thoughts run inside of it.
Just be like "screw this, no more for me"

whoa really? I'm not OP but interested in not having a beard for the rest of my life. Will plucking really eliminate them forever!?

I can try that.

Anyway, what about the little scars. Is there any real way to make them at least fade a little? If I exfoliate really hard, will new skin layers grow and be without the scar?

I am OP, and I can guarantee you that plucking does not eliminate the folicles at all. They always come back in the exact same places. I've seen it. If anything, plucking has made more hairs appear, though that could just be attributed to puberty. God damn... I'm 20 and still don't know how much hair my face is supposed to have.

Anyway, yeah. The hairs come back in the same places. I've been doing this enough to know where they are. I've actually noticed that the hairs come back in the same direction as well, because I've had two hairs on seperate occasions in the exact same place that grow horizontally and never break out of the skin. They're still visible, so they had to be removed. They were delicate procedures.

Go throw away your tweezers now if you're serious about stopping.
Depending on how deep the scars are you may have them for 1 year to life. I doubt they're bad enough for you to have them for life, so probably 1-3 years if you quit now they should be gone.

I think you may have trichotillomania.

Alright, it's done. I can't actually throw them away because I borrowed them from someone else, so I'll have to clean them off and return them, but I have put them some place I know I won't just go on a whim to get them.

I think the whole experience did help my finite hand eye coordination though... so I think there was something gained... maybe.

Good job, give them back tomorrow and start shaving every day.
If you can't then go to the doctor, explain and say you think you have trichotillomania and see what he can do for you.
