Dear /fit/,

Have you lost your taste for sweet?

I recently made an order for a post-workout protein powder (Surge). I used it back in high school with good results, so I figured I'd try it again.

I'm not sure if the formulation has changed, or because my diet has improved since then, but it's unbearably sweet. I've tried a half-serving in 16 oz of cold water, and it still felt like drinking syrup.

I think it's a result of my complete elimination of simple sugar (except a teaspoon of honey in any cup of tea I drink) since August.

Has anyone else experienced similar loss of the ability to handle sweetness?

Sounds like a triumph. You should make a note here, this was a huge success.

Refined sugars, yeah. I can't stand the texture of pop.

On the other hand, I still eat fresh fruit with my breakfast every morning. Blueberries are made of win.

That's interesting... that's almost like a hyperglycemic episode.

I'm glad you brought fruit up. Fruit is the only sweet food I still eat, and I think it's really contributed to my distaste for sucrose. When I first started on my journey for better health, fruit tasted bland and about as appealing as broccoli. But when I ate danishes and croissants and cake, how couldn't it be? I think that if I started eating refined sugar again though, I'd lose my taste for fruit...

things like cake or whatever make me really fucking restless for hours and hours now.

Ever since I got really bad sick after Christmas last year, my taste for sweets disappeared. Now whenever I taste anything sweet it sorta burns the back of my throat and I end up having to drink some water to get rid of the taste.

I can handle fruit just fine. It's just refined sugar that I have trouble with.

But I guess that ends up being a good thing.

It sounds like we've all made some great progress increasing our insulin sensitivity and decreasing our chance of diabeetus in the future.

I've found that I can no longer drink juice or iced tea (the only two drinks I buy besides bottled water) straight. I have to mix about 4 parts water for every 1 part juice.

It's neat how I started off doing this too. At first I just added a splash of water to whatever I was drinking... mango juice, iced white tea, etc. Then I started slowly increasing the ratio of water, until it was 1:1, and now I'm at the point where I only need about 3 oz of juice in a large glass, and the rest is water.

Oh, I love delicious cake. Or at least used to. Now it's too sweet for me to eat regularly, now its only for special occasions.

It's hard to understate my satisfaction with this thread.

Shit. I've come a long ways. I've lost thirty pounds and kept them off for a while. I eat better than I ever did before.

Nonetheless, I still get cravings for sweets. I'll still come home from college and I can't stay away from the fucking ice cream and Girl Scout cookies my mom buys. I still eat junk *occasionally*. You can't win them all.

I do eat fruit often to satisfy my sugar cravings: grapes, oranges, bananas, apples, etc. Stuff that keeps well in a dorm or mini-fridge.

I used to be just like that. My mom sabotaged me by buying the junk food she knew I loved. In fact, it was one of the biggest reasons I moved out - I knew that I could never lose weight constantly being sabotaged.

Now that I live on my own, I control what's in my fridge. I just don't buy junk food anymore, and that's why I haven't eaten it since the summer.

No I love sweet stuff. But my tolerance for fatty stuff has gone right down. I don't even like cheese anymore and I used to eat a shit ton of it every day.

Samefag here.

Thinking back, even before I was /fit/, I had a low tolerance for fried food. I got nauseous one time from eating a bunch of fried seafood.

I'll still eat fried stuff occasionally. If I'm eating at food services at my university, and if they have fried chicken or fish, and I need the protein, I'll have it.

When I get to college, I'm definitely going to load up on whey. Fried mystery meat served with a side of french fries, nothnx.

By cutting all refined sugar on my diet, i have realized how sweety fruits really are. Eating an apple feels just like having a spoon of sugar on te mouth (pretty good). But i tried a chocolate bar a week ago and te only thing i felt was the fat, it was pretty disgusting.

All these posts are showing me that I'm not alone in beating bad dietary habits.

I can't eat commercial chocolate chip cookies anymore. They're just way too sweet. I have to bake my own, and when I do, I don't add any sugar... the only sweetness comes from the chocolate chips.

I feel like I'm cheating if I eat anything too sweet. Unless I'm 'struggling' to taste the sweetness in something, it feels like cheating, and I think this particular mental habit (OCD?) has helped me smash my craving for sweet.

It's totally not mystery meat. It's real chicken. It's just that it's fried. It's probably not worth it; I should just drink more whey.

Also, they usually have lots of vegetables and fruit. Most of the stuff there is junk (pizza, hamburgers, fries, corn dogs, etc.) but they have a salad line, the "home cooked" line, a sandwich line (if all else fails), a vegetarian entree, and a soup line. If you're smart, you can make it work.

When I went to Japan for 3 months I didn't have hardly any sugary stuff except for about once a week Id go to the closest gift shop(about 8 kilometers round trip) and buy some kind of drink that I couldnt get in America. The lack of sugar in my diet made apples and oranges so much sweeter, now 2 years later back in America Ive gained 30 lbs, but I gave up drinking soda about 3 months ago and now I can hardly drink 12 ounces of the crap.
