hey /fit/, how much do you think I weigh in pounds? With my current body type could you suggest some tips on weight loss / how to look good?

Thanks, and yes I know I'm fat, thats why I'm here god damnit!

ps:

I now eat around 1400 calories a day and minimum walk 1 mile a day, I am willing to be more active and really want to do this.

gonna take at least 18 months to look "in shape"

99% of people in your condition will never look decent again

why is that? :(

I'd also like to know why you think that?

They quit too early and if they don't quit they'll still look loose due to excess skin.

Because if you allow yourself to get that fat, you'll be struggling with it for the rest of your life. I wasn't as fat as you, probably about half way. But I had a few things going for me.

1: I was still growing, grew 9" taller from age 15 to 17.
2: I didn't even KNOW I was fat up until I started dieting. It was such a shock I promised myself I would never eat unhealthily again, which I haven't.
3: I'm at an age where going to the beach and the pool is part of normal social behavior, so I couldn't be expected to "cover up" all the time. I don't know how old you are due to the fat, but you probably don't have the peer pressure that gets put on fat kids, which is actually the best motivation around, it definitely motivated me.

you think that my skin could never tighten back up at that weight?

I am 20 years old.

You are lying to yourself. But on the remote chance that you're not, you'll be fine. As you get healthier and the habits become more routine you will continue improving.

Expect it to take a while for you to look trim and fit (as in years), don't set short term goals... focus on making positive changes that can last the rest of your life. IE don't eat 1400 calories (if that's true it's practically a hollywood style crash diet) for 2 weeks, drop a couple pounds, and then give up or start snacking. Better to eat healthy and simply make sure you take in <= what you burn off, even if not by much.

At that weight, walking will do nothing. You have to run your hardest and push on your knees as hard as possible with each step to ensure you lose the most weight.

you look pretty young still I'mtold that unless you have ALOT of skin it will tighten up

I do eat this amount, and have lost about 20 pounds over past 3 months. I right now weigh 200lb and am 5'10

Dude, sorry, you look 40. I didn't know you were only my age. You've probably done this already, but if you haven't, you're going to have to face the reality that in the best case scenario you might look decent by age 22. Which is still young by the way. You're in for a prison sentence of 2 years without parole, but if you can get through the first 3 months you'll be able to do your time. Plus, no shower rape.

Then good job, keep it up.

If you actually have the motivation to change yourself, everything else is going to be easy. You don't need the internet's help.

This is the most important thing: Make a commitment to yourself for life, You have to throw away your old lifestyle forever and UPGRADE it to something healthier starting with eating clean foods and doing activities that require physical exertion. You CANNOT be afraid of hardcore physical training it is the ONLY way to get lean and strong.

what you need to do is to first change your diet, eat only complex carbohydrates(vegetables, 100% whole wheat grains and fruits). You need to cut most refined carbs from your diet such as white bread, white rice, anything that says on the back that it is enriched or refined. The reason for this is that since these foods are heavily processed they lose most if not all their nutritional value, making it a husk of what it once was, which makes it process quickly through your body, giving you energy and spiking your blood sugar levels, thereby increasing total sugar stored as fat in your body. complex carbs take longer to break down which helps your metabolism and keep your sugar levels stable due complex carbs high fiber. I don't think I need to say this but up your lean protein intake as well. Get used to sticking to birds and fish as your main source of protein as they are the leanest meats. If there is anything you need to really drill into your head its that sugar in large quantities(15 grams or more) is the devil. If you look at a can of soda its usually between 32-40 grams of sugar, a ridiculous level of sugar to spike your levels and make you fatter. Up your caloric intake to 2000 daily with clean foods and you should be ok so far as diet is concerned.

i suppose now im overly worried of the excess skin issue, and at 200 lb i sure dont look 200lb compared to other dudes. maybe its because i just recently lost a fair bit?

Next you need to get yourself a barbell and a set of dumbbells so that you can do free weight exercises. You want to start building muscle to replace all the fat you have on your body. the more muscle you have the more calories you burn, decreasing the amount of fat on your body. You want to start with squats, pushups, and some crunches(to strengthen your core to make other physical activities easier and more effective overall). Get into the habit of doing this every other day right now. and the days that you don't do weights do cardio for the sake of routine. Try to jog the mile instead of walking it but if you can't jog the whole thing thats fine just jog when you have the energy. Just start getting this into a routine and then you'll be able to step it up a notch for even more results. You will see dramatic results from doing what I'm suggesting in this post.

Also don't listen to the loose skin thing its a myth. Your skin is an organ that is constantly changing and adapting to your situation, it will not HANG loose off your muscles thats actually impossible. "Loose skin" is actually just fat, the last amount of fat you need to burn off thats all. Nothing a little hard work can't cure.

If you have any questions just ask away

OP here,

you're fantastic help, I'll follow this. I have two 20lb dumbells, i manage about 60 reps, and do about 3 sets within 5 minutes of eachother every other day, and walk to work a mile a day. I'll toss in the jogging and change up my diet a bit. My diet has been a lot of this:

1) breakfast, one of those big 100 protein bars at 370-400k getting protein and general nutrients,

2) subway 5grams of fat or less 6" sub

3) the other half of the sub i got for lunch

4) in between i might buy like some cheese and cracker pack thing.

I know it sounds like you'd kill me for all the preprocessed stuff, but doing that and eating what I do my body has responded fairly ok, but i think tossing in more aerobics (especially the jog and more core exercises) will speed it up.

Major sigh of relief on the hanging skin thing, but it sounds like it means only way is to lose ALL of the body fat.

you rock

oh I do have a question, what should my goal weight be roughly? I feel like having a goal like 175 I still wouldnt look "decent", but bmi calculators say thats normal weight?
>> Anonymous
>>390021

depends how tall you are, and how much muscle mass you have. And there is a difference between being within a normal BMI range and looking decent. Unless you've got a bunch of muscle hidden under that flab, I'd say 150lbs would look ok with your shirt on. If you want to look ripped you'll need less than 10% body fat, which even with a decent amount of muscle will still only leave you at about ~160lbs (assuming you're 6ft tall).
>> Anonymous
>>390039
Not OP, but damn, 160lbs if you're 6 foot too look good? Fuck. I was 234lbs, am currently 208lbs and I was aiming for 185. I'm 6'2. Fuck it, getting fit takes time, eh brah?
>> Anonymous
>>390055

That's just to start to look "thin" good, which is nowhere near as good as "muscles" good but will still get you laid more than "fat" bad. If you are working out while losing weight it takes longer to lose mass but at the end of it you don't need to get down to 150lbs to look ok with your shirt off. If you have no muscle at all, you just look skinnyfat unless you are almost anorexic (BMI of about 19). That's why it's better to gain some muscle as you are losing weight if possible. Or you could just focus on one then the other like I did.

how much did you lose and how long did it take?
