Is there an alternative to dips, or some exercises I can do to build up to them? They absolutely kick my ass, they're the exercise I have the hardest time doing.

You can either do bench dips (google), or instead of tucking your legs back, you can just use them to assist yourself on the way up and emphasize the negative rep.

ah, there are a lot of exercises you could put together to equal dips, but no one exercise can do the same thing dips do.

try doing bench dips

with or without weights.


it depends what your gym has. the gym i go to has a dip assist machine, where you stand on a lever and you can adjust the weight assisting you for dips or pullups. also the gym has seated tricep pushdown machine
