Bowflex. Discuss. In particular, efectiveness, value, etc.....

come on, has nobody tried one?

I just checked ebay, and they cost about $2K. Don't know anything else, sorry...

NOT WORTH IT.

I checked ebay myself, and lightley used ones sell for less than a quater of that. I really just want to know if anyone has used one and gotten the sort of results that they talk about in their adds.

I've only heard bad things.

such as?

It's a fairly versatile machine, as far as all-in-one machines go. You will get better results with free weights, but people are statistically much more likely to use what they already have in their homes. If you're having problems motivating yourself to go lift, a home gym system like this might be worthwhile for you. Otherwise, I don't really think it is.

totally worth it.

If you're fat.

It makes fat people muscular.

Ever see skinny guys become big on the commercials?

Ah, but I don't trust commercials. And yes, I am fat, and I want to become skinny, and frankly I don't have time to do much. I only have like an hour a day to exercise, so a 2 minute workout sounds good to me, if it works like they say it does.

I meant 20.

You'll need to do the bowflex analog of all the lifts you would be doing in the gym. The workout will take the same amount of time if you want similar results.

Talked to my trainer about it and other machines. The bottom line: all of the relevant research shows that free weights give a superior workout. My own experience was that I could press 275 on a machine I could only move 135 on a barbell. The bottom line is that machines don't work the stabilizing muscles well if at all which hurts your development.

Machines are bullshit, don't use them.

None of your stabilizing muscles are worked, they are often inaccurate as to how much weight you are actually lifting, and they just suck in general. Do real exercises instead.

they isolate the muscles you work on, so you won't have any functional strength. unless you buy the extra add-ons to stop from isolating the muscles, which is a shitload more money tacked onto an already expensive purchase, you can get better results from free weights.

this is all i can remember from the articles i've read, OP you should just google "free weights vs machines" and look at some of the well written articles by well regarded bodybuilders to get more insight on this subject.

srsly though, the tl;dr version of those articles are "free weights are better, use machines to isolate a muscle a few sets after you're all done with free weights"
