I see a "halo" above well lit objects.
They don't look like halos at all, but it gets the point across.

For example, when I look at this pic it seems as if it is glowing, but only vertically. If I slightly close my eyelids, it looks normal.

This symptom has increased ever since I started playing the Wii on my widescreen.

What is this thing called in the first place?

You could have cataracts. If by chance you've had any type of laser eye surgery, it could also be an after effect of that, although I'm sure you'd have figured that out if this was the case. Don't play any video games for a few days and see if it improves, or just schedule a damn doctor's appointment.

Hmm that might be right, but since I do see a clear image as well, it might not be the case.

Lower your cholesterol.
It settles in your eyes.

Try reading a paper thats printed on white computer paper, if it looks funny at the places you can see but arent focusing on, little green ameba things is the best way I can explain them you eat too much shit and the cholesterol settles in your eyes.
Shit sucks.
I don't see anything wrong with your picture though but I think thats what it might be.
