Hello /fit/,

I've made some progress on my fitness. I've been doing HIIT and pilates.
Do you guys think it's time for me to work on my abs or should I wait some more?
What other stuff can I do besides pilates? I'd like something a bit more intense I suppose.

I've lost .2 -.3 inches off waist and hips, my endurance has gone up, I sleep a lot better, my period is less painful and I've gained some confidence.
I've also gained around 2-3 pounds of muscle mass.

Thanks.

Muscle tissue burns more muscle than fat. The more muscle tissue you have the easier the fat burning process will be. That's a very quick and noobish response, but that's pretty much how it works.

I recommend squats, seriously important fundamental exercise. Just make sure you have proper form, also do some ab exercises such as leg lifts, double crunches, toe touches, and bicycle. www.bodybuilding.com search anything you want and check out their forums, GREAT place to lurk for info.

sorry, that should have been calories. Muscle tissue burns more calories and raises the basal metabolic rate. Muscle tissue is good. Build more.

I have ab ripper x downloaded, guess I'll start doing it. Thanks for the website, I'm taking a look at the women's section.
There is still some pudge on my belly that's not visible in side pic (more noticeable from front view) should I start abs anyway?

I'm also looking into resistance training videos. Anyone have recommendations?

Muscle burns fat so why not? Keep up the cardio, get a proper diet going, lay off the sugar, drink a gallon of water a day if possible, eat more vegetables and lean protein such as chicken and turkey. Oatmeal is a great addition to any meal. When losing fat I'd say a proper diet is atleast 50% of the equation.

You won't need a super duper ab workout, things like leg raises and and some oblique exercises would suffice. The squats and deads will also build ab muscle. And combing that with HIIT will make them show beautifully. Don't waste too much time focusing on them.

I'm being pretty consistent with my diet. I'm using splenda, dumped junk food soda and fried stuff, not eating much carbs, drinking tons of water, as for protein I'm eating chicken cottage cheese etc. Breakfast IS a problem for me though, I never know what to eat since I'm always in a hurry to leave for college I usually just end up dumping cottage cheese on whatever I have for breakfast.

How many times a week should I do abs then? I currently work out 5-6 times a week.
>>The squats and deads
Deads? Excuse my ignorance, I don't really know that much about fitness. By deads do you mean deadlifts?

DAMN! Good job! Saved your picture!

Tell me more about your HIIT.

Deads are deadlifts. And abs can be done every other day. If you're already working out 5-6x a week just increase the intensity. 45mins a day atleast should be sufficient.

Thanks!
I do 20mins, with 30sec sprints (around 7-8 of sprints)

Just looked at it, I don't have the equipment to do it and I don't want to hurt myself trying it alone :/

>>270835
I currently do around 35mins worth of exercise, I'll look into the intensity training see if I can add at least 10-15mins.

If you're in college, they should have a free gym. Other wise invest a little money in a barbell set. Check yard sales blah blah blah. When starting weightlifting always begin with lightweights until proper form is established.

Is it mostly because you're bored with routine? You could try taking some kickboxing classes or dance classes, give you some variety but still a good cardio workout?

I'll be checking my college then

Not bored with it at all, I just don't want my body to get used to the same workout and I'd like something a bit more active that I can do at home.
