yes

try to consume your weight in grams of protein every day.

The idea is to have a steady flow of protein to your muscles so they repair quicker.

for example, i weigh 175 lbs right now so i should be eating at least 175g of protein a day because im bulking up.

Not that simple. First, it's not your body weight that you should be considering. It's your lean body mass. Also, there is a bit of a multiplier...

If you're aiming to put on muscle, it's about 1.5g X LBM (in lbs)/day. If you're aiming for upkeep it's less than that, about 0.8-1.2g/lb/LBM/day.

Also, make sure you are consuming a good whey protein isolate. Not a concentrate. Fuck muscle milk. Don't take the shit. Also, depending on your body type, you can only "process" a certain amount of protein per hour. It's about 20-25g/hr. So don't drink massive shakes that are like 60g+ cause most of it will be wasted and converted to energy instead of used to repair muscle fibers.

Also, whey protein is awesome, but you might want to consider casein protein before you go to bed. It takes a much longer time to be metabolized and might prevent your body from going catabolic while you sleep.

But yes, protein is important. Especially if you are eating healthily as protein doesn't tend to occur in large quantities in fruits and vegetables.

Personally I like the optimum nutrition stuff.
http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2134050&cp=2665513.2108294&parentPage=family
(Though don't buy it from GNC cause they fucking overcharge up the ass)

I like ON because it's cheap enough to use in bulk and their vanilla ice-cream flavor doesn't taste like pickled asshole (IMO). I try to add a scoop of it to a 100% fruit smoothie or something like that.

If you wanna be HARDCORE then you can go with True Protein
http://www.trueprotein.com/

It's probably the best stuff available, but it obviously comes at a cost. You can get really specific with TP, they allow you to formulate your own blends so that you can get EXACTLY what you want.

Protein is complicated shit, but anybody who isn't using it doesn't know what they are doing. Do a lot of research on the stuff you're putting in to your body though, as there is a right and a wrong way to use it.
