Wear weighted clothing.

My boyfriend worked at an arcade that had a DDR machine once, and he wanted to loose weight. So he started playing DDR while at work for hours. Now I'm not saying you need to play 6 hours a day, but maybe a few here and there. Anyways, he lost a SHIT ton of weight. Just be sure to drink LOTS of water while you're playing and such. Also do some crunches or something so you become toned and not just flappy skinned. xD Good luck!

it really does help, and you should be able to pick up a weight vest at your local wal-mart, or a sporting goods store or whatever

I used to play DDR about an hour a day a few years ago and lost about fifty pounds (in b4 fatass). The best thing you can do is get a foam pad from Red Octane. They really save your feet.

When you get tired of DDR, track down a copy of Pump It Up!. You can get it for $20 new, it's got songs besides techno, and it uses a five-button layout. The game is harder from the start, but it's a lot more fun, with varied jumps, steps, and walkarounds. Once I started playing that, I left DDR behind.

DDR is an excellent way to stay fit and get exercise when you don't feel like doing some other forms of cardio. Especially if you're good at it. Just remember that DDR isn't enough when trying to LOSE weight. But coupled with a healthy diet and some cross-training here and there will drop the pounds like crazy.

Any weight training vest with less than 100 lbs isn't worth it at all. If you're buying a 100 lb weight training vest for DDR, then you need to kill yourself. Liek nao.

When I had the time to play on a regular basis, I lost 20 lbs. I don't think I was terribly out of shape to begin with so it may not seem like much, but I kept it off while playing

yes it is possible to lose weight playing ddr. I wouldn't recommend using just ddr though. also the better you are at ddr the more weight you'll lose. the light, and some standard, songs don't have enough movements in them to give you a good workout. In other words, if you want to lose weight don't JUST play ddr.

I played a lot of ITG2 when the R21 update came out.

For those who are going "lol, wut" the update let you put in your USB, have your own personal name, calorie count AND upload your own music with your own fucking steps. It was amazing for a while and all I did was play it.

I lost a metric fuckton of weight, and burned roughly 300 calories every round (3 songs)

It's not good to get in shape with though. DDR does NOT equal an excuse to not go to the gym. Just use it for fun and to fight off your videya cravings without sitting on the couch pumping your ass full of cheetos.

My girlfriend dislikes running, so her weekly routine is, three times a week, an hour of endless with songs between 6 and 8 feet. She lost some weight, not much, about 10 pounds, but gained agility, tonus and endurance.

When I was playing lots of DDR, I noticed that it really kept the pounds off as opposed to actually losing weight. So at the very least, it'll off-set whatever calories you intake.

OP here:
thanx for all the replies
well, basically, i weigh 73 kg.
(thats 160 pounds)
not really fat, just want to stay fit.

on DDR (i got ITG), i can hit 5 - 6 - 7 songs
(medium / hard, and 1 or two on expert)

the thing is, i don't really want to go jogging or something, or go to the gym.... i mean, i'm your typical pc geek that does not want to move outside the building

I remember like 4 years back hearing about a guy who was around 300 pounds who did the "Subway diet" while doing a daily 1 hour DDR routine.

The guy lost like 120 pounds.

(every few days), is this a good thing?

When I played DDR workout mode, at my setting (145 lbs) I was burning anywhere from 10-25 calories per song (mostly 7+ songs)

Figure 2 minutes per song, plus selection time, and you've got 30 songs an hour, which translates to 300-750 calories an hour. Not bad, I would use it as a supplement for days you can't get out and jog or get to the gyn. All that jumping around and balancing also increases your core strength

the main problem with ddr jumping is, that yu get fucking sweaty and need to drink alot.

also - isn't ddr bad for leg tendons?

Sure, if you're either a heavy runner or the pasta's whole grain. If it's simple white flour, it means it's made up of simple sugars, and your body just dumps it to your fat stores. You ever get the empty hungry feeling right after eating a big bowl of pasta? That's why.
