Oh hai /fit/

At the moment I am counting calories to try to lose weight. This situation has come up a few times and nobody i've asked knows the answer, so i'll try my luck here.

If you eat something (let's say a very fatty, calorie-filled meal at McDonalds) and the food gives you diarrhea right away, does your body flush out all of the calories/fat or does it keep them?

Thanks :)

If it gives you diarrhea right away then you haven't actually had time to digest the food and absorbs the nutrients (or lack thereof)
Anything in your pooper has already been absorbed into your body, calorie/fat wise.

I'm not sure about this one. I knew a girl who was a bulimic and took laxatives instead of puking up her food. She was very skinny too.

However, keep in mind it takes several hours for food to move through your body. The odds of your diarrhea actually excreting what you just ate are low. Odds are, it just made your stomach upset and caused the diarrhea.

And that's not dependable, either. There is no way of knowing how much fat or how many calories were absorbed. Also note that diarrhea is watery, not solid, for the most part. Meaning that the actual food particles haven't been turned into waste and you're excreting liquids.

So dont use diarrhea as an excuse to eat McDonalds.

Actually, weird as it may sound, I think one factor to my weight loss was that I went to the bathroom immediately when I felt like it.

Before sometimes I would hold it in because it wasn't a good time or I was busy or something.

I've been "listening" to my body or whatever, and have become able to feel when:
I'm eating too much
Eating so much is going to cause me to poop sooner or that certain types of foods will make it more necessary
That while I don't need to go yet, I will soon (see it coming before getting the feeling)

I'm sure I sound kind of crazy, but it all is really helpful for managing what you input/output. I use it to not eat too much or too little, and to help accommodate when I have (if I know I'm not going to eat for a while, it can be better to give it more time before going).

It might be hard to do, but I'm into knowing my body and stuff, I guess.

One other thing I've noticed that could be a big deal is it can be rather hard to differentiate being hungry from a feeling that comes before any warning signs of having to go. If I've eaten somewhat recently, I generally assume that's what it is and wait a bit (especially if I'm pretty sure I ate enough last time) and see what happens. It will usually transition to having to go. I don't understand why myself, but it is easy to misinterpret and eat more when in reality you will soon need to let it out and could definitely contribute to being more overweight.

there's really no way to know how many of the calories you absorb from a given food. counting calories is kind of a stupid way to go about losing weight. selecting healthy foods, eating reasonable portions and exercising is a more effective and rewarding approach.

I don't count how many my body absorbs, I count so that I stay under 1500/day.

It's weird. I'd eat Burger King every two months or so whenever I was far from anything, and about an hour later, I'd be sitting on my toilet for a good 20 minutes. It's why I always had to order to-go.

You aren't shitting out the fries right away, but some foods can trigger a reaction in you digestive tract. This will cause whatever is in the final stages of digestion to come running out.

For some reason, whenever I drink alcohol (only right after the first drink) I get horrible gas and shit a ton. It's not the drink going through me, the intestinal tract is just too long.

Laxative work for bulimics because it prevents them from properly absorbing the meals they previously ate, not the one they just had.

I try to exercise really hard and run a shitload on the days I indulge in fast food, even if just to help "justify it." Do that if you want, but don't think that shitting immediately after a greasy burger and fries is helping you in any way. All you're doing is losing hydration (and preexisting waste, obviously).

Of course not. The food has actually have to have been processed and digested. Even if you suffer from diarreah right away (especially IF you suffer it right away) after a meal, odds are that your food is still in your stomach being dissolved and all you'll be flushing is your last meal - or just water, dehydrating you.

Besides, this is supposed to be HEALTH and Fitness! You shouldn't be talking about stuff like that. If you can muster enough discipline to engage in eating disorders, then you can perfectly learn to say NO to unhealthy foodstuffs.

I know, lol. I don't give myself diarrhea, it just seems to happen after I eat mcdonalds or anything with meat.

Same thing happens to me with fast food. Also, coffee fucks up my system but I have it anyway.
