you're a fuckin idiot. im from ny and these guys on the vid look like they're from here too... there's a public access show with some dudes (yes they're black too) where they show you how to workout using the play bars in any park. what these dudes tell you however is that to gain muscle you need to have the discipline of not only doing the exercises but eating right. the dudes say stuff like avoid alcohol, watch how much food you actually ingest, you need rest, ect... what concerns me however is that although this is highly effective at building strength it fucks with your cardiovascular system b/c they don't seem to get any cardio done and having a lot of muscle with an inadequate heart to pump the needed blood to your body is worse than being a fat ass imho.

Pullups are the upper body squat, they activate very large muscles and force them to work together which can elict the same cascade of GH and Test as squatting. The spine is also stressed in pullups which some people think leads to hypertrophy because the body feels the need to build enough mass to protect its joints and nerves. I dont think so but nevertheless pullups can be very effective mass builders.

Look at the work of guys like Vince Gironda who were not a fan of building massive legs in order to force the upper body to catch up. If the legs are of adequate (read: not tiny) size the upper body can be sculpted through hard work and very strict diet. eating a ton and squatting might be the best way to gain mass, but it isnt the only way to end up Muscular and ripped.

Why is every one making a fuss over this, their doing bodyweight exercises. They work. Gymnasts use bodyweight exercises almost exclusively for strength training, and gymnasts have one of the highest strength to weight ratios out of any athletic discipline.

A high strength to weight ratio is important for athletes. It means they can accelerate faster, it's an advantage in martial arts where your divided by weight classes, and in the case of gymnastics, it allows you to preform some of those hard maneuvers. In the video I posted, he started his routine with a muscle up L-sit combination. A muscle up works the entire upper body, and is a very difficult thing to do. What your doing is a pull up into a chest dip and back again; you have to switch from one muscle group to another mid way through the muscle up. That's hard. And a muscle up is considered one of the easier exercises in a gymnast's repertoire.

If you only care about strength though, weight training can get you more brute strength than body weight exercises. But body weight exercises are useful for athletes because of they build really strength-dense muscles.

umm you have to take gymnastics since early childhood to be able to train like that. no overweight or out of shape person can just start flipping around, doing muscle ups, or parallel bars to get into shape. you start young when you are light and strong (strength to weight ratio) and increase in strength as you grow up. it'd take years for an average adult to become an sort of a gymnast
