what does /fit/ do to stay mentally alert?

obviously physical fitness is important, but what else?

i feel i am slipping a little - i'm on a one year language course, immersion in the language which is good fun and i'm learning fast and easily, but academically the course is of no value at all.

advise please. mindless destruction potentially related.

Faulty logic under false premises, appeal to nature/holism. Only under the assumption that we don't masturbate to begin with would that make any sense. The argument against masturbation because it has any sort of effect on the body is in fact, not an argument at all. Masturbation is a default function throughout human evolution, and is observed in primates as well. Any effect on the body is therefore not outside, foreign, or unnatural to our species. In fact, it's much more likely to be the reverse.

when I really need to be alert (I go backcountry backpacking with some friends every few months... no trails... this is the only time I really need to be terribly sharp), this is what I do:

1 - catnaps, the trick is not to *actually* nap... merely to rest for a bit (5-10 minutes)... I typically do one of these every lunch and or water refill stop.
2 - trying to notice as many things as possible encourages you staying awake, if nothing is going on and you're dozing, try to notice small details in things...this saved me in high school and uni math classes many times

if you want to stay alert just listen to talk radio shows. they force you to stay alert by bombarding you with information your brain has to proscess. Im not saying believe in what they say or anything, but by giving ur mind info to proscess they help you stay awake/alert.
