so in the last couple years I've been getting REALLY fucking sleepy during university lessons, even if the topic is interesting and I WANT to hear it. This is beyond anemia and low iron issues.
Does /fit/ have any tricks to keep yourself awake with discretion (that is, while you're sitting in a silent classroom with 100 students in it, which means power naps are not an option)?
I tried biting my tongue and taking notes non-stop, but that hasnt worked much.

Pic is related to the topic I last fell asleep to, just so you see how big the problem is.

Adequate sleep the night before, exercise a bit to keep your metabolism up, don't eat anything heavy right before the lecture, don't wear anything overly soft or comfortable and if need be cut back on caffeine. It dumps sugar into your system from storage in cells, and chronic fatigue has been linked to excess caffeine consumption.

I sleep 7-8 hours a night, drink ONE cup of coffee in the morning and dress rather normally. Yes, I don't do much exercise and I tend to eat heavy for lunchbreak, but so do my study colleagues and none of them seem to have trouble keeping their heads from thumping on the table.

are there any quick tricks to stay awake when sleep is really getting to you? It's the same kind of sleepiness you get when driving in the afternoon.

take some ZMA before you sleep. It gets you a more restful sleep. More rest, better recovery, more energy.

I get tired from eating a heavy lunch before class, and even warm drinks (includes coffee, but the caffeine hits me later).

I allow myself to nap for 15 mins (when we have breaks). I wake up refreshed! :)

I run into the same problem if I'm not directly involved in the discussion some how, I find it interesting but tiring to just listen, luckily I go to a school with faculty that encourage discussion of the topics between students and instructors. If I get to talk about the topic, or have input in some other way, I perk up quickly. I'm not sure when you can do, aside from talking to yourself, if they discourage discussion during class.

I completely understand where you are at here. I generally take a half bottle of 5 hour energy (pretty much just B-6 and B-12 vitamins) about 15 min prior to start. Works great.
