Hey /fit/

I recently started doing weighted dips on my breast/triceps days. The exercise is great and I hope I can keep it my program. I use a belt similar to the one on the picture, but it is not possible to tighten, it just hangs over my hips. The problem is that my lower back hurts quite a bit after using it. I have thought of using a backpack or something, but that would look really stupid. Is there any other ways to apply extra weight to exercises like dips and chins? I'm not going to buy some expensive shit.

You could hold a dumbbell between your feet, but if your lower back hurts, either your form is fucked or you need to strengthen your back. Do some deadlifts.

Protip: you'll look stupid no matter what.
man up and just do the backpack thing.

Sorry but English is not my first language.. Does form mean something like technique? (couldn't find it in the dictionary)?

Number 1: It is chest, not breast.

Number 2: Hold a dumbbell or medicine ball with your legs.

Not my first language, sorry ^^
I really don't think I can hold a 15 kg dumbbell stable with my feet.. I guess I could try anyways.

Form = the correct position your body should be in while performing the exercise.

youtube or bodybuilding.com will have videos showing the correct form.

I've done dips for quite a while now, so I think I know how to do them properly. I don't have any problems with my back either. Performing dead lifts 1-2 times a week. I think the dips hurt because the belt was hanging in a wrong way.. Or something like that.

in this case when he's saying form he means the position you're standing in and how your back is positioned. if you're bending your back while doing this, i can't imagine anything good can come of it. i don't know anything about this technique but i'm going to ASSUME you're supposed to keep your back straight and lift using your legs rather than bending your back and lifting that way. that's what i've been told when lifting really heavy shit anyway. anyone care to elaborate?

We are actually talking about dips, which works the triceps.. I can't imagine how anyone can bend their backs doing this exercise. I suppose you were thinking about dead lifts?

So.. Anyone else got some idea how I can put some weight on my dips with out hurting my back? I'm not really fancying the idea of lifting dumbbells with my feet. A backpack could work, but won't it swing back and forth?

My triceps are little bitches.

They can't hold my weight when doing dips, I was shocked they were that weak to be honest. I'd never isolated them before like that I guess.

So yeah, I can do maybe two of them before I gotta stop. It may actually be something else because it was more sharp shooting pains rather than muscle failure that made me stop. Maybe weak joints.

Ouch, that doesn't sound good at all. Where is the pain located? I know a lot of people have problems with their wrists and shoulders when performing dips. Also, you can support your weight with your legs in the beginning.

it might not be possible. keep in mind that some exercise techniques are just risky in nature

I wouldn't advise adding weight above your hips. It's bad for you back.

Instead get a good belt that fits you well.

Srsly, you don't want to fuck up your back...it pretty much never heals completely and makes you look like a feeble old bastard.

Hmm.. Even if the weight is over my shoulders or something? It thought the back was mostly passive during dips

Dips are hard when you first start. In High school I could do like 6. Now I can them forever.

As for the hanging weight, maybe try to bend your legs and loop it over your legs. Just Or wear it around your neck. Figure something out.

Yeah, was my shoulders. They may have been worn out from the day before, where I worked them when I wasn't scheduled to. (maybe that's why I wasn't scheduled to, duhr)

When I try them again next week I'll try letting my legs support most of my weight first.
