Hey /fit/

I have a son who is 12 and is going on 13 in may. He has pretty bad acne. He is in amazing physical condition, plays basketball, soccer and swims. His voice is really low and never cracks so I suppose he's almost through puberty.

Can you recommend me some good acne products that I can buy over the counter, and also how to suggest it to him without him getting really offended at me? he's pretty sensitive about it.

No joke: Pure alcohol like purell. Burn like hell, but it clears that shit up.

it sounds like your son is using steroids. Make him take a piss test (a surprise one!). The acne should clear up within two months.

his voice started to crack when he was like 10. He's a healthy eater, I think it's the chicken that has something to do with his hormones.

accutane = heavy artillery
benzoylperoxyde = bleaching effect, try it first
>> Anonymous
yeah I know benzoylperoxyde works, but is it in its own seperate tube persay, or is it in products from Neutrogena etc?

I.E Do I buy it lone in a tube, or do I look for products containing it?

ITT people who don't know anything about puberty. It does not end at 13, nor start at 10 and takes closer to 10 years then 3 unless he's a freak.

If you're not lying take him to see a doctor because something is seriously wrong.

there are several companies that produce cremes with BPO.
Don't know if Neutroga produces one, could be.
Just ask in the apothecary.
And for the face, get as low % as you can.
Something like 2.5% is enough, more is good for back akne.

DO BLUE/RED LIGHT THERAPY WORK AGAINST ACNE?

END OF CRUISE CONTROL
>> Anonymous
Benzol Peroxide is a good place to start but I thought it left me too greasy and oily and it was a pain to use. I used Proactiv for awhile and while it did work to an extent, I wasn't satisfied with the results. Now I'm taking Retin-A and it's proving the most effective and fastest working.

But creams are only part of the solution. Food that's pumped with hormones aren't helping your skin at all. Decrease your meat and milk intake and it might lessen the severity of acbe

products with the main ingredient sulfur seems to work well for me.

accutane is definitely the best. Not only does it totally destroy the acne but it prevents it from coming back for years even after treatment.
>> Anonymous
acne is caused by a weak liver - not being able to distribute hormones in a correct fashion. To CURE acne and not just treat it you need to make your liver stronger. To do that you cut back on sugar and protein, kick up the vitamins and get rid of the free radicals in your body by drinking mostly any kind of juice. Organic food is always good.

mix up some pubes and shit in a mortar and leave it in the fridge for 4 hours. Apply liberally to the affected areas...try not to eat any no matter the temptation!

A lot depends on how it reacts with your son's skin, he'll have to try different ones and see what's best. I use Clean and Clear Persa-Gel 5.

ACUTANE will rid him off it forever. its strong as fuck so if his acnes not real bad it might not be worth taking but as a last resort it is a miracle drug

Avoid caffeine, milk, corn syrup and monosodium glutamate.
Thats it, acne should clear up quite quickly after that.

People that preach dietary shit as the end all solution are fucking morons. Everyone's case of acne is different. Some people can eat pizza and other greasy foods and not break out. Others barely eat chocolate and their face explodes. There are tons of possible causes. Puberty in his case is most likely one of the causes. But honestly, just take him to a dermatologist. They'll put him on antibiotics and a topical treatment or two. If his case is really bad and doesn't seem to improve, he'll need Accutane no doubt.

While Acutane works, it's also been linked to depression and suicide. I suggest you take him to the dermatologist and talk to a professional, because like many people have already said in this post, every case is different. If it came to using Acutane, I would make sure it's a last resort. As far as bringing it up to your son? That really depends on your son. He may be sensitive about it, but at the same time he'd be much happier if the acne were gone. Maybe you could just ask him if he would like to see a dermatologist. It may be something he's secretly wanting to do and just doesn't know how to bring it up. Good luck. ^_^

Your son is 13. Acne is natural. And just because his voice has changed doesn't mean anything. In fact the voice changing is in stage two of five in puberty. If HE wants help, just go to the store and buy over the counter treatment. Proactive supposedly works but I've never used it (its mail order only too I believe). You can find "systems" for acne in the drug section of the supermarket. Also might try consulting a dermatologist.

Basically proactiv, minus the costs. If you use it correctly, it will work. Cost me about 24 bucks, cleared my skin right up in about 2-3 weeks, and scars were gone soon after.

>>19759
You can buy Proactive in kiosks in the mall, but it's more expensive to do it that way. I've heard both great success stories and horror stories about Proactive. Some dermatologists like it, and some claim it makes acne worse. Which is why I think in reality, you need to take him to a dermatologist if you can afford it. The dermatologist will be able to answer your questions better than anyone on 4chan. ^_~

That's a myth. I took Acutane in middle school and it worked perfectly. The only precaution you need to take is to make sure you drink a lot of water every single day. I personally drank at least 64oz every day. This is to keep your liver in good shape because Acutane will do a number on your liver without some help. It also removes a lot of moisture from your body. Your lips will become very chapped and you will have red eyes, and your skin will be sensitive to sunlight, causing you to burn easily (not a problem for those of us who stay inside all day anyway). Also as a precaution, you are required to return to your doctor once a month for a blood screening in order to continue your prescription. They do this to make sure you're drinking enough water and to check that your liver is working normally. But really there is no way you can go wrong with that product.

I used proactive when I was younger. Jessica Simpson endorses it so it must be good. It is good if you were wondering.

I had pretty bad acne during highschool.
Shit sucked my cock.
My mum is a dermotoligist so she knows all about skin and that sort of shit.

Doc started me on the weak stuff until eventually I ended up with ro-accutane. S
hit sucked hard for like 3 months, had to have like lip balm and I couldn't keep a tan to save my life. After 4 months went by though all the pimples went. I stopped using it as soon as they went (I was on a 6 month dosage) which happened to be during summer because otherwise i'd get sunburnt to easily (Ro-accutane cuts down on the layers of skin so that the oil and pus from pimples doesn't build up under your skin), and I shit you not, I had clear as FUCK skin for the rest of my years. I get the odd one here and now but only because of an over-indulgence of sugar or cheese but other than that, ro-accutane works fine by me. I suggest trying all the other shit first though as ro-accutane can have some seriously fatal side effects hahahaha.

Roaccutane ftw. Although I wouldn't recommend it for a 12 year old, it might go away when he's out of puberty.

I went to a GP about mine, since I'd had it pretty bad for a while. I was put on clindamycin phosphate and an antibiotic, which, while it certianly helped, hasn't cleared everything up. maybe it would work better on milder cases

Acne is largely a genetic issue (unless you're a fry cook or something). I used to have some seriously bad acne, but I found that using some of the prescription meds I got and generic facial products work pretty well as far as keeping it under control. If you use generic acne products, the thing is that you need to keep using them on a regular basis, regardless of if you're breaking out or not.
