I is 6'4, 220lb (fat, but can't tell if i have clothes on) and am trying to get down to 190..

The last month i've been eating 1500 calories a day and I have lost 5 pounds. seriously what the fuck.. i didn't exercise, but only 5 pounds? I'm a fucking huge guy, shouldn't i lose more than that? so today I started eating alot of small meals and going up to 1800 and am oging to do 20 minutes of jumping jacks, 20 minutes of squats and 20 minutes of situps (would do push ups but I just hate them and I don't think i could stay committed to them)

So, my question to you, why did my plan not work in the beginning and will my new one work?

Pic semi-related (it's why i'm losing weight)
also, i love /fit/

drink 10+ glasses of water a day and 3 cups of green tea. pair this with a high fiber diet and get your ass to the gym or run around your neighborhood a couple times a week.

Losing more than 1 kg per week is not recommended.
5 pounds in a month is ok.

I think the exercise will make a difference. I had a roommate last year who lost like 40-50 pounds (granted, he started at like 250) over a couple of months because he switched to a largely vegetable-based diet and went to the gym a lot. Now he's downright studly o_O

(Plus, if you work out, especially on weights, you'll end up with muscle showing where the fat's gone, instead of just a smaller pile of fat)

bleh, I know everyone can see the fat, but sometimes you just gotta tell yourself things to get through the day :(

I'm in a similar situation, I'm 5'11" and 196-198
I've been eating alot less (@1500 a day) and exercising a bit (I started with 50 pushups and I add 5 a day i'm up to 90) and while I haven't lost any weight I can already see that my arms legs and chest are becoming more toned and less fatty.

Cutting carbs will generally just cause the body to respond by preserving whatever calories it can, even more. Possibly even slow your metabolism.

What you're doing now? Much more beneficial. Exercise is the more important factor in losing weight. With food, balance and proportion is more important than amount. Even if you ate alot, but ate well, and still exercised, it would work.

Your body is designed to resit change.

you eat less your metabolism will slow down.

Always! Bulk up THEN slim down.

If you really want to look better naked do cardio and weightlifting on a regular or high protein diet. After you are in good/better shape you can start cutting calories.

Eating less won't help in the long run unless you go anorexic but that will kill yah early.

A couple of comments on this.

I'd stick with your current calorie count, you didn't mention it so I assume you're strictly drinking water, unsweet tea is acceptable but be sure to offset the diuretic effects of it with plenty of water.

Now, as to your exercise plan. Your best long term solution is to improve your core strength, these burn the most calories. Your legs, abs and back. Look up appropriate exercises to emphasize these muscle groups, integrate in cardio as desired.

Further, I'd recommend toning exercises on every muscle group, emphasis on arms and chest for tone. For this, I recommend seal pushups, since you don't like regular pushups. This is where you simply lie directly on the ground, put your arms in the pushup position but only raise from your waist up. It doesn't sound like much but as you continue to do it, you will definitely feel the burn. This is for toning mostly, your arm strength will not increase much from this.

Hopefully you can put these suggestions to use.

is the eating six minimeals a day a good idea?

I always hear it is, but I never put it into practice until today...

it makes me feel like i'm eating tons, because i'm never hungry, but i'm actually eating quite less. I've only eaten 1000 calories today and i'm not hungry at all, I'm about to bring myself up to 1500 right after i do some more squats though

Absolute bullshit, do not listen to this man. Low carb does not cause your body to preserve energy if you eat enough. Also diet is much more crucial than exercise in losing weight.
