so /fit/ I weigh 220lbs. I am working out to increase muscle mass. Am I actually supposed to eat 220 grams of protein a day?

if you're 8 feet tall, yes. if a lot of that weight is fat, no. the '1g protein per pound' thing really doesn't apply quite so much if you have a lot of excess fat, and it applies even more if you have a lot of muscle. i'd say the average person shouldn't need to go over 100g, but that's not to say you can't.
