Halp me, /fit/! Anonymous
Hey /fit/

I'm having a slight problem. I started HIIT cardio on Monday but it feels.. inadequate, to say the least. Here's what my HIIT work out looks like: 5 minute warm up, 5.5mph at 6% incline, 8mph run at 6% incline for a minute, 3.5mph walk at 6% incline for 2 minutes (repeating until 21 minutes) then 5 minute cool down walk at 3.5mph. I've been doing cardio for 2 months (maybe less). The problem is that HIIT feels like it isn't working.

Another issue I have is my calorie intake. I'm supposed to be getting 2200 calories but I know that I'm not eating enough for that. My consumption through the whole day is probably somewhere less than 1500 calories. I eat chicken, tuna, salad, hard boiled egg (no yolk), turkey sandwiches, fat free milk, water, etc., etc. I need help. What can I eat that's healthy but with more calories? I haven't lost a pound in about 2 weeks and it's frustrating me!

TL;DR Am I doing HIIT right and any high calorie healthy foods you guys can recommend?

Pic related, kinda.

No. You need to full out sprint when you do HIIT. If you aren't beat to shit at the end you did it wrong.

Damn. How fast do you think I should go, then? 8mph is pretty tough for me but I think I can go faster, just damn. These last two days have been wasted, then.

YOU CAN NOT DO HIIT ON A FUCKING TREADMILL

As fast as your goddamn legs will go.

Seconded. I've never seen a more massive waste of money than a treadmill (unless you live in Antarctica or some bullshit).

THANKS FOR THE REPLY. I DID NOT KNOW THIS. I WILL PROBABLY STICK TO MY ORIGINAL CARDIO, THEN.

Recommendations for my second problem?

TAKING IN MORE CALORIES IS NOT GOING TO LEAD TO MORE WEIGHT LOSS. THIS IS SIMPLE BIOPHYSICS.

OKAY! LOOKS LIKE I WON'T CHANGE MUCH AND KEEP AT MY ORIGINAL PACE! MAYBE TRY FOR 5 MILES INSTEAD OF 4 TOMORROW. THANK YOU, ANON!

YOU SHOULD KEEP DOING HIIT BUT FORGET ABOUT THE TREADMILL. DO IT OUTSIDE, YOU'LL GET A TAN AND PEOPLE WILL LOOK AT YOU LIKE YOU'RE RUNNING FROM THE POLICE. CRIMINALS ARE SEXY

Its not about distance, its about intensity... (High INTENSITY Interval Training). Increasing your distance to 5 miles at the same pace won't do jackshit with what you're trying to accomplish.

Increase your intensity, run faster on the treadmill, bring down the rest periods. Or like everyone says, go outside. There's a big difference between running in place on a treadmill and actually fighting against gravity (when you're outside, you're applying force not just against gravity but also in the forward direction, two vectors as opposed to one vector on a treadmill) Most people find that whatever distance they can do on a treadmill, is usually half of what they can do outside.

YOU MAKE A GOOD POINT, BUT I WAKE UP AN HOUR OR SO BEFORE WORK TO GO TO THE GYM HENCE THE TREADMILL! I DON'T THINK I CAN GET A TAN AT 5 IN THE MORNING!

I've been running for a good while now and dropped 32 pounds since I started this whole running thing. I'm honestly a pretty patient individual and I don't need to see results THAT badly. I really just wanted to give HIIT a try. I'll keep your advice in mind.
