Is there any real benefit to being able to do 100 push-ups compared to 50? It doesn't really make you any stronger, does it?

a good thing to do is. do 50 push ups between every mile you run or jog.

yeah. this could be a problem for the lower back. It can be a good thing though. you're already breathing hard and you have to breath forcefully while doing this or else....idk prolapse anus maybe or hernia?
