What does /fit/ think about CRD?

It seems to me that "they" have been raving for years about how you will live till the age of 150 and you will only look 40 years of age.

I think they also claim that you pretty much won't have ANY medical problems EVER.
>> Moonmauler !!LgNbdvCFAuN
I'd rather live 70 years being fast and strong than 100 being slow and weak. And to be fast and strong I have to eat at least 3000 calories a day.
>> Anonymous
I think it's for self-obsessed baby boomers that want to be immortal. I want to live well and enjoy life while I'm in my prime, not live a decrepit existence for another 40 years.
>> Anonymous
how much do "they" squat?

Yeah but you will look like shit at 70, while someone on CRD will be fucking your daughter because they look 30 years younger

Right, because my diet of blueberries, spinach, chicken breast, broccoli, oatmeal, milk and green tea is going to leave me an atrophied wreck by my 70th birthday.

Oh no, i don't mean you will be frail and destroyed... I'm just saying you will LOOK your age.

And if thats fine with you, then all the power to you. But some of us want eternal youth LOL

3000 calories is not that much, average weightlifters diet.

it's not uncommon to consume 5000+ calories per day.

strong men probably knock back 8000 calories a day

Perhaps your making sound worse than it is? There are video testimonials out there of old people on this diet who do rock climbing and shit

Dude you have no idea. I eat a pound of chicken a day.

Also, take a cup of oatmeal, microwave it in a cup of skim milk, put a scoop of protein powder and some pineapples on top and you have 600 calories of NOM NOM deliciousness.

I'm not saying 3000 is hard to consume, just the foods that he listed is hard to get that kind of raw calories from.

>eternal youth

You know, it's people like you who give the rest of us a reason to just sit on our fat asses all day. Why do you want "eternal youth"? What's the point? I'd rather kill myself outside being fit and climbing a mountain than be "eternally youthful" and sitting on my ass at home.

Why would someone eternally youthful be sitting on their ass all day? It seems to me it would be the OPPOSITE.

The only time i could picture them sitting on their ass at home is when they are copping a BJ from a chick that is 30 years younger than them

Also, an excerpt from the article I mentioned.

Over the next few days, I discovered just how bad things have been – and they'd been that way for a very long time. Here's an entry out of the diary Dave's been keeping for me:

5:00 AM: Wake Up

Ate 4 Pop-Tarts and drank three cups coffee

5:00-7:00 AM: Work

Answered emails and worked on the EliteFTS site

7:10 AM: Pre-Workout Meal

McDonalds #5 with 2 apple pies and 1 large coffee

7:30-8:30 AM: Train

First 20 minutes was dynamic warm-up and mobility work with very aggressive stretching. I then did some sledgehammer and arm work. I drank the coffee during the session.

8:30 AM: Post-Workout Drink (2 Ultra Fuels!!!)

8:30-12:00 PM: Working at the Gym

I spent this time preparing the weightroom for a photo shoot, answering emails, and reviewing business indicators for the week.

1:00 PM: Went Home

On the way home to take care of my sick son for the afternoon, I ate a Burger King chicken sandwich meal with extra mayo. I hate chicken breasts and only eat the breaded stuff. I also ate onion rings and a Snickers pie. I drank Dr. Pepper along with my meal.

1:00-5:00 PM: Worked on a Presentation and Napped

During this time, I knocked out 6 mini-Snickers (no idea where they came from, but they were on the kitchen counter and in my book that makes them fair game). I also ate 5 lunch size bags of chips. We buy these so we don't eat so many at one time. Oops. I also had a few packs of Disney fruit snacks (we get them for the kids but I eat most of them).

5:00-6:00 PM: Make Dinner for the Kids

All hell breaks loose as we try to make dinner for the kids. With one sick and the other one ornery as hell, it was not good times. I forgot to eat until they were done and then I was hungry as hell. I popped 4 hot dogs in the microwave and ate them on 4 pieces of whole wheat bread with ketchup. I also had 3 lunch bags of chips and 3 glasses of sugar-free Tang.
>> Moonmauler !!LgNbdvCFAuN
7:00 PM: Put the Kids to Bed

Of course, I got hungry again. I fired up the oven and cooked up 6 giant cinnamon roles with icing. Yes, I ate all of them with a huge glass of milk.

9:00-11:00 PM: Emails and Work on Seminar

During this time I ate 4 Pop-Tarts and drank a big glass of milk

In the end, today was a good eating day. I have no idea what tomorrow will be like. However, tomorrow is squat day. We train at 9:00 and I'd like to go to Bob Evans restaurant beforehand to load up.
Behold, the 10,000 calorie powerlifter diet.

Nonono. That's why a GUY might sit on their ass all day.

How much food do you people actually eat anyway? I'm curious. How many calories a day, would you say?

And also you look like crap. Skinny fat is the WORST way to go. Ugh.

If i can still be like this at an old age, why is that such a bad thing?

You can be that way when you are 70 and exercising too. In fact, it might be better because you will be in good shape and not just a sitfag. Exercise makes everything better, trust me. It lifts your mood, gets you some muscle, and even can make you bigger... if you know what I mean. Losing fat makes you appear bigger.

>Nonono. That's why a GUY might sit on their ass all day.

I'm not sure what your talking about here to be honest, unless you were trying to be witty by saying that people on CRD are not "Guys"?

>How much food do you people actually eat anyway? I'm curious. How many calories a day, would you say?

Just to clarify, I'm not on a CRD diet, its just something i am interested in learning about. I don't know all the tech facts, but from what i remember it was less than 1000 calories a day thats for sure. Been a few months since i did the hard research. But it is everywhere if your interested (But i doubt that haha)

>And also you look like crap. Skinny fat is the WORST way to go. Ugh.
Again I'm not really sure what your talking about... If your not referring to me, then your claiming people on CRD are skinny but with fat? I find that hard to believe to be honest.

>>164470

i like to get about 4000 calories a day. I have an ecto frame and a wicked fast metabolism (need a hair cut every 2 - 3 weeks). But i have built myself up to a solid meso at 180lbs. I'm also very active, i have to do something every day, even twice a day. lift heavy weights 4x a week on top of that.

4000kcal is just enough to keep me growing at a slow but steady rate
>> Anonymous
>>164479

Everything you say is true, i believe it. The thing is, there is massive research that excessive daily calorie intake is responsible for fast aging and medical problems.

These are the key points.

Personally, i would like to try to come up with some kind of in-between best of both worlds kind of diet and routine.

>Again I'm not really sure what your talking about... If your not referring to me, then your claiming people on CRD are skinny but with fat? I find that hard to believe to be honest.

People who eat small amounts of food don't have a lot of muscle, as building muscle requires a lot of calories, and maintaining it takes a lot of cals as well. So they will probably be skinny.

Also, people who eat very little become very efficient at storing energy as body fat. Hence the fat part.

>1000 calories a day thats for sure

Um, no. I'm no CR expert myself, but just go to the CR society homepage, or just google "cr diet blog" and do some reading...most CR authorities these days recommend that you DON'T drop below 90% of your ideal body weight. Most women get around 1200-1500 kcal/day, most men get 1800-2200 kcal/day. The ones who go under 1000 are either a) very small or have very efficient metabolisms to begin with or b) anorectics. Sometimes people who are new to the whole CR game try to drop to those low levels, but once they start experiencing the negative effects of starvation they invariably raise their calories to the aforementioned higher levels.

In all honesty, the CR diet is only "restricted" when we compare it to the standard American diet; for those of us who are already health and fitness-oriented, the CR diet isn't that extreme at all. What's really different about the CR diet as opposed to your standard "healthy" diet is it's emphasis on consuming the majority of calories from antioxidant-rich (and thus age-retarding) food, rigorous calorie/nutrient tracking, and specific anti-aging supplements (CoQ10, reverstarol, etc.)

tl;dr: Nobody is insane enough to eat less than 1000 calories a day, not even people on CR diets. Do your research again.
>> Anonymous
>>164502

What if a person on a CRD also lifted weights ect? Sure they won't end up a huge big buff guy with an oil tanker for a neck... but then alot of guys DON'T want that.

Buff but old in appearance, or normal with a youthful appearance? It depends what your after i guess
>> Anonymous
>>164503

Thats great info, thanks for that. I will research the diet once again in the following days.

But what you said about age-retarding foods and supplements... thats the core of my interest. I want to do that, with weight lifting, and a calorie intake that falls somewhere a bit above a standard CRD.

Like i said... where is the sweet spot if you don't give a shit about having 44 gallon drums as arms?
>> Anonymous
>>164513

>>164503here. That's the tough part; everybody's body is different, so determining exactly how much you'd need to eat to be between extreme CR and normal or standard "healthy" diet is different for everybody. I only have a passing interest in CR myself, but I have similar goals to you, and I believe I've found a pretty good balance. I've been doing it for 5 years, am 24 now and I look exactly the same as I did when I was in high school, for whatever that's worth. Here's what I do:

- Maintain bodyweight at 90% of ideal (for me that works out to 135 x .9 = about 120 lbs.) I tried going lower once but I just started getting sick all the time.

-Track calories. I use FitDay and just make sure that I a) have at least 3 servings of fruits/vegetables at every meal, with a heavy emphasis on leafy green vegetables, and b) hit all of the RDAs by at least 100%, before supplements. Also, I track my weight daily, and if it drops below 120 for over a week, I add an extra 100 calories; if it goes above, I cut an extra 100 calories. Presently I maintain my weight at about 1600 calories/day, which is 100 less than it took two years ago with no corresponding change in body composition (I consider this a good thing, as slower metabolism = less aging.)

(cont'd in next post)
>> Anonymous
-Take supplements. I hate taking pills so I just stick to a multivitamin, fish oil, CoQ10 (not sure if that one's actually doing me any good), and reverstarol (this one looks promising). Lots of CR practitioners swallow buckets of pills everyday, however I am not that dedicated.

-Exercise. All I do is run 3 miles/day and do 20 minutes of bodyweight and free weight exercises a day, with one day off per week. My intent is not to build muscle, so I don't hit the weights hard (which is what allows me to do it almost daily.) Body composition is stable at 15% (I'm a girl, so going any lower = bad.)

That's about it. I'm definitely thin by most people's standards, but I'm not exhausted, sickly, underweight, or incapable of performing vigorous exercise, as the popular CR stereotype goes. But then again, I'm not very extreme at all. I expect to live an extra 14-20 years as a result of my lifestyle.
