quick question /fit/.

how effective would a diet of nothing but fruits, vegetables, and peanut butter sandwiches (on whole grain wheat bread) be?
>> Anonymous
of course while also doing daily cardio work for exercise, and I mean for losing weight.

You'd probably need a vitamin supplement.

I pretty much live on this, plus protein powder at the moment to gain weight. The sandwiches (or toast in my case) are the only thing that really keeps you going though. For losing weight, it is extremely effective (or at least in my case it was). Problem is now, I've restricted so much of what I eat that except for those foods it feels strange to each anything else. Haven't touched dairy, anything with processed sugar or anything cooked in fat in about 6 months. Makes it a pain in the ass to bulk when that's become part of your routine, so I have to force feed 4 protein shakes with 50g of powder in each (about 160g of protein) a day.

I know, my mind is doing circles trying to create a succesful diet for myself to lose weight. I'm 6'1 and about 280 pounds, and I want to lose idealy at least 80 pounds. So I need to find a good spot in between eating too little and eating too much to not convince my body it's starving itself, but still lose weight. I bought a lot of vegetables and fruits, but I'm not much of a cook to make meats and stuff, so i'm trying to find foods that are easy and still good for you. Peanut Butter seemed like an easy out.

well, peanut butter actually has a shitload of calories in it. Everyone knows that certain foods are "healthy" and certain ones are not, but you're going to have to find specific things that you like to make up your diet. If you don't already, start reading packaging for everything you eat, or look it up on the internet if there's no packaging. Just being aware of how much energy, fat and sugar different foods contain is a huge step and will pretty much guarantee some weight loss. It might take a while to get used to it, but a healthy diet is only about as difficult (to me) as quitting smoking. As far as starvation mode goes, I have never found that your body "clings to" every last fat cell as I've read about. Before I started eating healthily, I basically starved myself for 3 months and lost a shitload of weight. Nobody really said anything to me about it or noticed I wasn't eating, but I kept reading that if you do that it'll slow down your metabolism and when you start eating normally again you'll put it all back. For me, the reverse seemed to happen. Now that I want to put on weight it is actually quite difficult. I gave up trying to get a six-pack as it was just starting to show and decided to start bulking, but now I'm on 3000 calories a day for the past month, the six-pack has come through and ribs are showing. Guess the important thing is my shoulders, legs and arms are getting bigger, still losing fat though.

This is going to sound super gay probably, but bear with me. But until I reach a point where I know what's good and stuff, are there any foods from your experience you'd recommend? Keeping in mind I'm a terrible cook.

If you are worried about high calorie content in peanut butter, just get the PB2 stuff. I buy it. It's something like 50 calories for 2 tablespoons. They take 85% of the fat out of the stuff and I can't even tell the difference.

I don't cook at all. And this is going to make a lot of /fit/ angry, but instead of the peanut butter sandwiches it's probably healthier/easier (if you have the money) to buy subway. Apparently they have too much sodium for /fit/'s liking, but it really is the simplest way I have found to eat what I consider a relatively healthy meal. I eat a footlong roast chicken with no cheese and no sauce on wheat bread every day. Has about 650 calories. Cost isn't great, but the convenience is. Apart from that I eat whole grain cereal with rice milk (this part is not necessary, but for me it is). Any drink is diet (cordial, soda, and splenda on cereal). Just those few things makes a huge difference. I don't have a "cheat meal", instead I drink a couple of times a week.

Footlong turkey breast on wheat with lettuce / tomato / pickles / green peppers and dijon mustard only has 550. Mustard doesn't have calories.

but the footlong chicken has 20g extra protein in it and has more mass, should fill you up more
