Dear /fit/ Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
Consider me an emissary from /tg/.

See, I'm a fa/tg/uy who would rather be a fi/tg/uy, if you know what I mean.

I was hoping to start small. Now, diet isn't really an option to change, as i'm on my own, dirt poor etc.

So I was thinking. I have a pair of dumbells at 35 pounds, and I can do situps, and pushups of course.

If I start at 1 set of 10 reps of each of those things daily, for a week, then after the week is out change it to 15 of each a day, and so on....Is this feasible?

Will this help me be /fit/ter?

Any advice appreciated.

Pic mildly related.
>> Hammerknife !7ITukp3Pj2
Step them down. How many reps can you do until failure? Lets say ten. Do a set of ten, shift down to 25lb dumbbells and do another set of ten, then shift to 20 and do another set of ten.

These are 'reverse pyramid' sets, and do at least 3 in your lifting schedule. I'm assuming you have multiple exercises in your loadout, if not look some up and add them in.

As a relatively fit fa/tg/guy, all I have to say it lift as much as you can within your means, be it time, money, or strength constraints.

And run. Like, NOW! RUUUUNNNNNNN!

>>96420
Run? Really? Damn. I was kind of hoping to avoid that.

Oh right. You won't lose weight by lifting, you need cardio, and to be quite frank you're gonna feel shitty while doing it. If you're not exhausted at the end of your cardio workout, you did it wrong.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
>>96422
Fuck. Any ideas as to how long it's going to be before it stops feeling shitty?

Yeah, so was I. I didn't.

Should go from bad pain to good pain in a month or three. Then you'll be feeling the burn, and loving it.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
>>96429
Oh...well. Can't be helped I guess.

You can bike instead, but unless there are nice hills around your area you just won't get the same bang for the buck, and with biking you generally get constrained by your legs getting tired and lactic acid building up a lot faster than with running.

Just suck it up, there's no other way to /fit/ness.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
>>96431
Well, I'll try. Maybe jogging to work or something. But I look like such a fag when I run. Good thing I work nights.
>> Oh then in that case
>>96436
You'll look like less of a fag the more you run. Eventually your stride will change to something decent looking. About the same tie you stop dying after 15 minutes.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
>>96437
HA! 15 minutes. Try 45 seconds of running.

Long way to go is long.

Hey, it's either that or a gut and an early death because your arteries are clogged with nacho cheese. Your call.

I know. Thanks to everyone for the help.

Do want to look like a fag during exercise periods, or a fat person always?

>Now, diet isn't really an option to change, as i'm on my own, dirt poor etc.

Why so? Good food isn't expensive.
>> Anonymous
>>96452
Yes, yes it is. Eating healthy is quite pricey if you want to really get into vegetables and fruits. Easier if you just buy lentils and beans, but you need the fresh produce for the real deal, and those generally cost more. At least here.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa

Hmm, do I want to look like sometimes I take it in the bum, or as though I'm just rather lazy....

This is so strange. I have only known 4chan as /b/ and /hr/. You guys are so nice and constructive here. Its enough to make me want to get back in the gym!

A few of the worksafe boards are like this. /co/ for example. /tg/...if you want to piss about half of that board off tell them "40k is the best traditional game ever, and all other systems are full of mary sue weeaboos"

I'd love to see that thread...

Huh? Diet not an option? I've never lived cheaper than when I was dieting. Hint: Less food costs less money. Yeah, it probably won't be /fit/ approved nutrition but what the hell; results count.
And after losing weight you can still live healthy for little $ with some research. E.g. for protein substitute heavy metal filled cheap fish for low fat cottage cheese. Just as much protein, fills you up more, shitload of calcium, none of the bad stuff from fish/meat.

>>96436
How much do you weigh? Running is seriously a bad idea from a certain weight up, especially if you have feeble joints/thin bones.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
>>96462
I weigh 300 pounds or so. 6'1"

I used to play football, so pretty strong legs for someone who doesn't work out. It's not that jogging or running hurts per say, just that it wears me out in a VERY short time. Start stop. Start stop.

Also diet is probably the last thing I would change even if I could. I would rather eat nothing at all than just keep taking out shit I do like and replacing it with shit I don't.

>>96466
The point isn't that it hurts immediately but that it will grind down your joints and you'll be fucked in the long run. Although I guess that depends on how much/long you run in heavily overweight (as you are right now unless you have some serious muscle) mode before you drop to acceptable weight.
>> Anonymous
>>96466
No problem, the point is to wear yourself out. Run until you can't anymore, then stop and walk for half an hour. Then run again, then stop and walk. You should see a boost in running time within a week, though at your weight you'll need to shed the pounds before you can really run too far.

>>96472
Ah I see. Well, I like to go boating, does that count as cardio?
>> Anonymous
>>96474
Let me specify, rowing. Not motorized boating.
>> Anonymous
>>96466
You won't lose any weight by doing that. You need to change your diet because that is what got you fat in the first place. Google "BMR" and look up that number. You need to around that amount of calories a day.

The results will be about 10x faster with dieting because that is about 60% of weight loss. If you do it right, your stomach will shrink with the healthy food and you won't have fatty cravings. Drink nothing but water, sugary soft drinks are what probably made you fat in the first place unless you eat 10 double cheeseburgers a day.

Seriously man the fuck up and eat your fucking vegetable you fat fuck.
>> Anonymous
>>96474
Definitely. You know it isn't rocket science: If something gets your heart pumping like crazy for extended amounts of time, it's cardio *by definition*.
Some gym trainer dude once told me that the rowing machines are better cardio than treadmill and biking too so go figure.

Thanks.

Okay, cool. Guess I'll just blow up the old boat and head upriver then.

Oh, a blow-up boat? I was thinking more along the lines of this (makes you move your whole body because the seat moves too).
But better than nothing for now I suppose.

Yeah. Can't afford much really.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
Also, what are squats, and are they useful in the sense that pushups and situps are?
>> Moonmauler !!LgNbdvCFAuN
>Now, diet isn't really an option to change, as i'm on my own, dirt poor etc.

Oatmeal is one of the cheapest foods that exist, and it's great for you. Whey powder is one of the cheapest sources per gram of protein. Frozen fruits and vegetables are much cheaper than their fresh counterparts. I have a bag of mixed frozen berries that I eat with my oatmeal every single morning. It cost $6 and lasts me a month. One jar of organic peanut butter costs $5 and lasts me three months.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
>>96487
I guess portion is key here eh?
>> Moonmauler !!LgNbdvCFAuN
>>96490
In some cases. The bowl of oatmeal I have every morning is a big one, and when I sat down and figured out the price I saw that each bowl costs about $0.70 total factoring in all the ingredients.
>> Chaos Sage Marine Aspiring Champion Sagerius !!7sP5yPsAJXa
>>96494
Hmm. Well that's a good tip then, thank you.

At 300lbs you may want to avoid running initially, and bike or swim instead. By bike, I mean bike hard, none of that gliding for long distances. Same thing with swimming, laps, as hard as you can. Probably in water you can touch bottom in, so you won't drown when you gas out. Once you get working on your fitness it gets easier and easier to keep on it. I was once in the same situation, right down to the gamer bit. The gaming part hasn't changed, but I'm now 235lbs and a bit under 20%bodyfat and still decreasing.

buy yourself a non-olympic barbell and some plates for under a hundred at sports authority. Do this workout, dont eat a bunch of dessert or fried food. You will find its very easy.
