I have bad posture. It hurts my back to stand/sit up straight for long periods of time. What can I do to better my posture?

Practice sitting up straight. Work out your back and ab muscles.

Do it even though it hurts. Stand up more when you can. When doing activities "requiring" you to sit down, get up every 5 minutes and stretch.

Deadlifts.

Imagine you are being pulled upright by a string attached to the top of your head.

Superman crunches.

Also, bracing your hands against a doorway and pressing your chest forward.

Shit works.

Grin and bear it. Your core won't get any stronger if you don't work it.

You might be hyperflexible and your back muscles aren't fit enough to compensate. Ask a doctor.

Hyperflexible, eh? I think I am. I can turn my arm all the way around, my fingers bend all kinds of funny ways, my shoulder pops in and out... yeah. I've never thought that would have an effect on my posture.

Oh it does. I'm hyperflexible too, wasn't even aware before I suddenly got this really severe backaches last year. The doctors didn't have a clue at first, then they sent me to an orthopedist, who took one look at the way I sat in front of him, told me I was hyperflexible and told me to get the fuck of my lazy butt and do back exercises.
My posture has improved slightly since then, but it's still going to take some time, I still have back aches when I have to walk or stand around for more than two or three hours.
