If you're having proper servings of fruits, that should be enough sugar. In fact, the only sugar that does you any good is sugar from fruits as the body processes them differently.
For refined sugars, there isn't any established amount so a rule of thumb is if you're on a 1500 calorie diet, you shouldn't be consuming more then 25-35grams of sugar per meal.
