Tonight I tried this high intensity interval running (aka HIIT) for the first time. I followed the program as laid out by wikipedia (60 second jog, 30 second sprint) for 6 cycles and did my proper warm up and cool down..

Shit I thought i was going to die for sure and it didn't help that it was cold out. I usually run 2-3 miles on the treadmill before a workout at a 7-8min/mile pace.

I know nobody gives a shit..
tl;dr: Thank you /fit/izens for teaching me something good when all the other boards have brought me nothing but despair and boners.

Are you saying I should do nothing but strength train and bulk? I'm trying to get bodyfat lower before bulking...

People always say this and I never understand it. You want to get lean in order to... not be lean?

Yes the fat loss is the most important thing for me right now. You're saying it's not possible to not become a fatass during a bulking cycle?

The mirror and scale are important components of your bulk...

1) wtf did you just ask
2) its possible to become a fatass when doing anything. don't pig out everday, don't eat junk, count your calories, and you'll be fine.

Last time i bulked i went from 160-195 gained about 10-15lbs of bodyfat. Some may say thats not a great bulk, and i agree but i lost the fat in like a month, and i wasn't counting calories at all.

Didn't ask anything, just feel like I'm being trolled. And my diet is not a problem, I've adhered strictly to it over 2 months now. I've been weight training and doing cardio this whole time. This is after a year away from the gym. Haven't dropped much weight (about 10lbs - down to 175, 5 foot 7 inches tall) but 'appear' to have gained muscle. Didn't get a BMI before so... whoops.

And that sounds like a good bulk to me, but is it possible to gain mostly lean mass and not bodyfat? I know this is basic shit, but size/mass isn't incredible important to me, being lean is a higher priority.

can you be more vivid in detail, do you think it worked or will work?

I have got my stamina pretty good, and I was wondering if I should try this out to lose the last bits of body fat I want to lose

also hot wimminz for answer

if you dropped 10lbs in 2 months WITH exercise then your diet is a problem. not THE problem, but it won't hurt to change it.

And when you're doing strength training is pretty possible to not gain any fat, you can probably even lose fat if you make that one of your goals.

all muscle is lean mass. you never hear people say 'oh i gained some fatty muscle'. no bro.

Well, I'm not sure what you want me to go into detail about? You can find tons on info on it by googling...

It's definitely not the same as just running the same distance. If you don't sprint often it's going to be pretty tough. The hardest part, for me, was continuing to jog at a good pace after the end of a sprint cycle... just wanted to walk.

Anyway, try it out, can't hurt. Do it outside or at an indoor track (treadmill would be kind of awkward).

Thanks for your reply (and everyone else).
Are you saying I should have dropped more weight? I wasn't that fat to begin with and I'm pretty sure I've gained some muscle mass in that time. I've made lots of progress in my exercises (bench press for example) and I'm happy with what I see so far.

Honestly, a typical day for me is oatmeal in the morning, cottage cheese w/ some fruit for lunch, skinless chicken for dinner and protein shake after working out. I don't cheat, some days I probably don't eat enough (skip breakfast, etc).

never skip breakfast
save the cottage cheese for before you sleep
eat more meals
you can lose like 3lbs a week if 'getting lean' was your goal

Thanks, will do.
