I never liked "supportive" people when it comes to talking about weight. Anonymous
When I was a fat teenager, I always complained about my size and said stuff like "I need to lose weight." My reply from my "supportive" family was always "You're a nice size" or "But then you'll be anorexic!"

When I went to college, worked out, and actually got to a decent size now (though I still have a protruding stomach), I'll say something like "I still need to lose some fat." The reply was "But you're a nice/healthy size."

So I'd get mad and say "Then how was I before?" The reply: "You were a little chunky" and "You just ate well."

Anyway, it is not "supportive" to lie to people you supposedly care about and call them thin/fine/okay when they start talking about their weight. That is one taboo that everyone should get over with since the biggest women in America are also being called "Fine" by their friends.

These people brought up to think 'white lies' are best when speaking to people they care about. They think supporting the idea that you're a fat fuck is negative and want to try and see to it that you're comfortable no matter how shitty you are. That's common. You don't want sugar coated feces. You want the real deal. What makes you think that you're going to get that from people who want you to feel like people at the end of a doctor Phil commercial. Also, don't listen to me I'm a prick.

don't worry OP, i'll ALWAYS believe you're still fat.

It just disgusts me when I hear it though. I guess people would all rather sit around and call each other "fine" then work out together.

Which would be so much better.

Thank You. :*) You're the friend I've needed all along...

I guess I'll go throw up again.

i never sugarcoat. a roomate would always bring up his weight no matter where we ate. like buffets. "welp. im gonna go grab another plate since im such a fattie." then he would pause and weight for my friends and i to sugar coat it for him. wed either just look at him or i would tell him to go work out with me and he wouldnt be such a fatass.

also ill tell people "well your not as fat as so and so" or "then do somethign about it"

i was borderline chubs when summer started. 6'4 and 220lbs. now im down to 185. my goal is 175

annoying isn't it?
when i was skinny and wanted to work out my mother said i'm just fine. i told her i needed more caloric intake but she said i'll become obese.
anyway now she says i look better now, and that before i looked weak. geeze, couldn't she say it earlier?

6'4" and you are aiming for 175? Gain some muscle you twiggy fuck.

I guess, like>>243872was saying, people think it's better to do the white lies thing.

Telling a kid he/she is fat could mean making it turn anorexic, suicidal, etc. (Since kids are so extreme these days)

Though I wonder if it's better for parents to directly say their child is too fat or too skinny before the mean kids at school say it to the kid.

will be. i have always wanted to be a runner and enjoy running when i work out. so im not going for big bulky muscle. i am going for lean without being a skeleton. so i guess you could say athletic build?

lol turning anorexic...

i dunno, as for me, my parents never sugarcoated things, when i was fat my mom told me i was fat and needed to go run or something.

6'4 guy here. my dad once told me i was "gettin kinda fat" of course coming from him who is 6'3 and fat as fuck i hated him for a while. and it didnt motivate me at all. it actually stripped all hope and self confidence i had. of course i never brought up my weight looking for sympathy. i could look in a mirror and tell i needed to lose weight and i couldnt believe someone as unmotivated as him was telling me i was overweight (hes been on the goddamn atkins diet for 3 years and hasnt seen any results derpderp)

I agree with you OP. I get the same thing, only I'm really fucking skinny. It pisses me off. I think it's a way for them to dismiss the need for them to do any work to improve their bodies.
>> Anonymous
why do you say shit like "i need to lose weight" in front of people.

LOSE WEIGHT FOR YOURSELF NOT FOR FUCKING ATTENTION

OP here.

My Dad was fat too (300 pounds). When I was a teenager, he had this indirect way of telling me I was getting fat. He always said "You'll have no problem getting lots of girls when you grow up if you just KEEP YOUR WEIGHT DOWN."

Seeing as he was fat, I always felt a bit mad when he was say something like that to me since he was so big himself.

But keep in mind that he (and my Dad) would be a professional when it comes to this. :D They don't want you to get where they are, so there is a bit of motivation and love there.

My Dad was always excited to see me when I came back from college because I was losing weight and actually getting fit. I'm pretty sure it inspired him to do more walking. ...wish he didn't do the starvation thing though.

I hate stupid people when it comes to this, too.
"MAN, you're 5'7" and 140 pounds! You're unhealthy! You're anorexic!"

Or "Mind over matter! If nature wanted you to be skinny, you'd be skinny!"

I fucking hate old people who think they know what they're talking about, and I fucking hate people who don't know what it takes to lose/gain weight and then bitch.

>People that say "Man I need to lose weight"
They piss me off when they decline offers for help. I'd exercise with them!

Yeah, I'm like "Hey, it's easy just slowly cut out junk food, and we can run together k?"

And they are "Oh, it's okay"

And in my mind, I stab em to death.

ME TOO. OMFG. I'm a skinny fuck, and when I was younger I had asked for a scale so I could make sure I wasn't losing any weight, and so it could help me to gain weight, and actually measure results instead of just crossing my fingers while I eat more than I normally do. When I got that on a Christmas my aunt thought I was crazy and laughed. I was something like 110 lbs and 5'9" at the time.

You have to remember that the dieting industry and even some personal trainers and physicians have distorted what it takes to lose weight. People go on dieting plans with much determination and do it right but get nowhere.

So they're doing the right things for that plan yet aren't doing the right things for their body.

Depending on how muscular or skinny you are, they might be too intimidated to train with you. Or even too prideful. The whole "don't want to be embarrassed in a gym thing" is the first step and many take a while to conquer it.

same here, in my freshman year of college a bunch of people got freshman 15 and then would tell how they need to lose weight, i offered advice and said i can tell em whenever i go run, but theyt always came up with an excuse...

this one guy said he was focusing on grades but all the time i would see him playing wow and eating take out.
