I'm starting to get a little overweight. I'm 6'1", 230 pounds. During school, I usually lift weights, which barely kept me in shape, but now that school is out, I've been slowly gaining weight, and it's starting to show in my stomach/obliques/thighs. I've been thinking about just going 100% cardio until I get back in shape, then hitting up the weight room again. Does /fit/ have any suggestions to lose some weight over a 2-5 month period of time? I'd like to get myself in shape for the sake of my heath, and for my girlfriend.

Light cardio slows down the metabolism, and since you're out of shape, you'll probably only be doing thirty minutes and such.

Better idea: Go to the gym, do heavy compound exercises to get your metabolism rate going, do HIIT on your off days to help burn fat/increase metabolism, and eat a healthy balanced diet, and the fat will melt off.

Nigger.

Alright, I think I understand now, correct me if I'm wrong:
Do heavy compound exercises 4 times a week, let's say, Monday, Wensday, Friday and Sunday, and on the days I'm not doing that, I do HIIT, in which I can work out on a cardio bike, sprinting as hard as I can for 40 seconds, then resting for 2 minutes, and doing that 10 times, ending with a cooldown, doing that on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday?

You should be around 160-170, you fat fuck.

Lol? I'm really not that fat.. It's unnoticeable when I have a shirt on.. Unless the shirt is super tight.

Make it three times a week, and three days of HIIT. One day off.

Do that.

Also do not pussify the HIIT, just do the 30/30 for a few minutes, and add on a minute every week. It isn't meant to be easy.

30/30?

At least they're trying to get in shape and realize they're overweight. Better than being in denial and thinking they're perfect how they are. Unlike the fat whales who go around showing off their disgusting belly rolls while wearing shirts or pants 5 sizes too small.

Thirty seconds running, thirty seconds jogging.

I don't know where the hell you got the forty seconds and two minutes of rest shit from.

"For the first option, warm up at a comfortable intensity for 5 minutes. Then, give your maximum effort for 15 to 30 seconds, followed by a 2-minute recovery."

Do I have to run? Can I bike?

I've been biking with my dad for a couple of years now, but he recently got a new job, so I havn't really been motivated to get out anymore, but if I could do HIIT on a bike, or even on a cardio bike in the gym, that would be better. I'm a terrible runner, and get shin splints when I run too much.

Did you seriously just link me to a health site that is affiliated with video games?

>More than likely, though, you will be going so hard that you will need to walk during the recovery.

I'm sorry but unless you are forty years old, you do not need to walk for two minutes.

Yes, you can do it on a bike.

it has to do with your heart rate... they suggest it to get down to a lower level than i actually do it at so i'm not sure, but then again my HIIT consists of going as hard as i can for 45 sec - 1 min, then 1 min rest

You're kind of an ass for someone looking for advice.

And you're kind of a dumbass for being unable to distinguish the fact that I'm not the OP, I'm the one who has been giving him advice.
