Related rage story: I started my "weightlifting" years back with shit like curls and machine presses. Then I got serious and started squatting and deadlifting. I got hella stronger and my core got tighter, but my biceps shrank a little because I wasn't isolating them. People started tell me I was "getting smaller." Once I got comfortable with my power lifts, I reinserted standing barbell curls. After two weeks I was back at my max biceps size (mostly just an ongoing pump), and of course the same people were all "Man, you're HUEG!!!"
Like it or not, arm-to-torso ratio is an important aesthetic.
