Alright guys, I've been running off and on for a few months now, the other day me and my mate decided to double our distance and run six miles (two laps of some local reservoirs), with various uphill and downhill sections. Tried to maintain a constant run, but slowed to a brisk walk a couple of times. We finished in 49:30 in the end - is that a good time? And in general, is it better to focus on running a smaller distance in a better time, or increasing distance? Cheers for any advice.

if youre trying to get somewhere fast, than the better time is good. If youre trying to get in shape, the longer time you spend with your heart rate up the better.

I am curious op, what is you current physical condition ? I've been running off and on for a few months now too and all I manage is something like 3.75 miles/40minutes or 5.5/60 minutes. (jogging, not running. I couldn't run those distance)

I run 2 miles one day as fast as I can (I've gotten down to about 14 mins) and the next day I'll run for 30 mins straight (usually ending up at a little over 3 miles). This way, I get both the muscle training for my legs/intense workout one day, while burning some serious calories the next.

It's a OK time if you're just starting. Don't take break inbetween, if you're out of breath slow down but still keep jogging to keep heart rate up
