I've reached my target weight, so now what? Can I stop exercising and still maintain weight as long as I keep my calories to the right amount?

I basically hate exercising, so I only do it to lose weight. Don't really care enough for it to keep it up simply for a healthy lifestyle or whatever. But don't know if that'll result in maintaining weight but with fat replacing muscle and thus looking bigger/ disproportionate and thus the skinny-fat look? I should probably just reduce the amount of exercising eh. I dunno.

>Can I stop exercising

No. You can stop exercising as intense as before, but over time your muscle mass will begin to decrease. This in turn will lower your metabolism, meaning less calories will be burnt doing the activities you were originally doing, causing to a rise in fat. Maintaining a diet can prevent this, but only to an extent. Inevitably, stopping exercising will cause your metabolism to decline. But of course, you can sort that out when you need to, if that is your plan.

You need to exercise harder if you're not enjoying it.

it's called life. that's liek saying "so i controled my deadly asthma by learning how to breath properly..now that i've controlled it, can I stop breathing properly?

losing weight, staying in shape is a commitment..it never comes natural to anyone. some people can stay skinny without trying but that doesn't meant that they are in shape.

And dude, it doesn't take much. i used to train very intesley and now i only devote about 5 hours a week.

hey OP,

i started at 220 lbs. and got down to 155 after just under a year (via diet and exercise). at that point, i stopped exercising but i have since been maintaining my diet as best i can

i stopped exercising in June and now i am 160 (due to some poor decisions i made over the holiday, alas), but i was able to keep my weight completely steady by just eating carefully after id stopped exercising

good luck op, i think you'll be fine :)

You shouldnt consider exercise, You should consider it part of your life. Just don't think about it, i run 30 minutes every morning, for the past 6 years now. It's the same as brushing my teeth, or eating breakfast, it just becomes something you do, im never like "Oh gawd ima so tired ima dont wanna run tomorrow Q_Q", no, you just go to bed, you get out of bed, you get your gear on, close the door, and start running, simple as that. Hope im getting my point across, its rather late.
