Ok /fit/, I need you.

I am a 25-year-old, 5' 7", 140 lb. female with a small frame who is looking to get a flatter stomach. I've got the dreaded pooch. My whole tummy just kinda puffs out and I need to know how to get it flatter. It doesn't have to be some perfect supermodel stomach...but I'd like it to maybe not look so "pregnant" LOL.

Some background...
--When I was 17, at 114 lbs, I didn't have a perfect flat stomach then either. It didn't have the poochy fat, but it did puff out. So apparantly I've never done something right, LOL.

--I have an addiction to sodas, which is probably my biggest downfall. I have tried to quit soda and it's nearly impossible. I can go several days without a drop, then I get cravings so bad that I 'binge drink' soda.

--I do not do a lot of exercise. I was mostly wondering what type of exercises would be best for flattening the tummy area? I know you can't "spot train" places on your body but I figured some types of aerobics or cardio would be better than others for certain goals.

--Honestly I do not look "fat" or "chubby." When I was 114, that was too skinny. When I was at 128 or so I looked really great! But something happened to my diet and now I gained a good 10 pounds. It all goes to the tops of my thighs and my damn lower stomach, apparantly. Weird thing is I didn't drastically change my diet to cause that weight gain. Any insight to what I did wrong?

Thanks for ANY opinions, I really appreciate it all. Pic isn't me but it is related as that's what the goal generally is. If you want pics of my current stomach situation, you'll have to wait a few hours until I get off work. XP

Suddenly giving up vices like too much soda can be difficult. Try just cutting down first. And honestly, as bad as it may be, if you can keep it down to a moderate amount, and take that into account for the rest of your diet, you should do okay.

Cool, haha I am glad I'm not a freak who can't quit soda. Seriously, it seems like I'm trying to give up heroin, LOL!

So basically doing something like...cutting back to "a can a day" would probably be more manageable?

Sounds like a plan.

That would help, yes. Just add on some cardio a few times a week and as long as you don't have the metabolism of a walrus, you should start seeing improvement.

As to types of exercise, it really doesn't matter. Just do whatever it takes to increase your heart rate, and continue doing it for about half an hour. Depending on your aerobic fitness you might do okay with a brisk walk, or you might have to run. It all depends. Just try some stuff out and see what you can do.

Changing sodas or replacing them altogether can help too. Picking a soda with no caffeine and a lower sodium content, or just replacing it with some other drink like lemonade or tea can make a pretty big difference. It's no secret that drinking water in place of sugary beverages loaded with sodium is an easy way to shed a few pounds. Eating 3 regular meals a day also speeds up metabolism, and is something a lot of people these days disregard.

It's called diet soda. Learn to love it.

If it's only caffeine you need, then making some tea and cooling it is even cheaper and healthier. Just make sure not to add sugar.

I have a sway back, and it makes me look "pregnant" all the time. Gives you a sexier looking back tho.

I used to have a really bad addiction to Soda also. The biggest help was Iced Tea. I can't stand the taste of Nutrasweet or Splenda, it makes me want to puke. Because of that diet soda was out of the question.

To start out I would buy the sweetened lipton or Arizona iced teas. After a while I bought unsweetened tea and kept sugar on hand. I finally got down to about half a sugar packet to sweeten a pretty large glass. Once you get down to a low amount of sugar, you can drink unsweetend tea. The complete transition took about 6 months. But I'm pretty happy about it. I haven't had a soda except for a rootbeer float maybe 2 or 3 times in the last 3 years.

you're not alone, i'm addicted to the stuff too and it's a nightmare trying to go cold turkey. i'll go three days or so but the headaches and cravings just make me give in.

It's willpower. I know people who actually HAVE given up heroin cold turkey. It's just soda. Don't drink it. It's that simple. It may not be easy, but it really is that fucking simple.

I'd suggest walking whenever you get the chance. park far away from work. when you get thirsty try drinking water or tea instead of soda pop.

most importantly though, don't do anything too drastic that you won't be able to do on a regular basis. Remember it took you 8 years to go from 114 to 140 so just imagine how long it'd take to get back down.

Implement that, along with the cardio/diet suggestions others have given you and you'll be at an even better looking 128.

Except I'm not fat. ;D

Thanks for all your (other) input, guys. I'll definitely put it to good use.

it sounds like your body stores fat as visceral, not subcutaneous fat. if you are working out regularly then look to your diet. limit fats to poly/mono oils and watch how many you eat. i would say make your fat intake 15% of your daily calories. make the rest protein and carbs. dont eat simple sugars, at all. if this doesnt work, up your cardio

Shed ten pounds:

1) Drink nothing but water.
2) Don't eat sugary shit, candy, etc.
3) Less sitting, more walking.

swayback can also be corrected by attention to posture and stretching the anterior hips

end of story. Also, I don't believe you're not fat, enjoy your whale stomach.
