When running, will you burn more fat by continually running at an moderate pace for 30 minutes straight or running at a fast pace for 12 minutes walk for 2.5 then run at a fast pace for 10 minutes then walk for 2.5 minutes. I cover about the same distance.

I'm not fat at all. I actually have a really low body fat percentage but I am trying to grind off the last bit of belly fat to get my abs to show.

I don't know if this metaphor holds, but you burn more gas driving a car really fast for the same distance you'd drive it going at a moderate speed.

I think distance trumps time.

moderate pace, you burn more keeping your body in constant motion

if you're trying to burn fat you need to go at a pace that you can maintain for over 30 minutes. You need to have at least ten minutes to break into and stabilize your cardio, and then the minimum length of your (at least 3x a week) workout has to be 20 minutes.

Research HIIT and you'll come across studies saying that a combination of basically sprinting then a moderate pace tends to up the metabolism and helps with weight loss.
