My friend and I are having a competition. I will be trying to lose weight while my friend is going to whiten his teeth, but neither of us are allowed additional help other than advice (ie, no going to the dentist for a teeth whitening).

we are setting the limit at one month and all hes going to be doing is brushing his teeth regularly and quit smoking and drinking coffee. I, on the other hand, will be walking about one hour a day for the month.

im 5'6" and 180 pounds, i eat about 3000 calories a day, about how much should i cut back on that and how long should i be walking?

i dont have a goal, i just want to lose weight. prize is 50 bucks, nothing special. more of a now-youll-feel-better-about-yourself-prize

Even though your bmi/weight probably allows you to exceed 2000 calories, at your height 180 is an unhealthy weight unless you're fuckin buff as hell, and even then that would look awkward and creepy.
You should only be eating roughly 2000 calories a day, and if you eat the right things that is a LOT of food; if you want to lose weight/fat, you need to excercise/burn off more than you eat. The amount of food you eat, then, should be based off of how much excercise/activity you do. (Obviously everything, even sleeping and breathing, will burn calories, but also obviously that alone won't get you to your ideal weight.)

Excercise is different for different people too; find what you like/are good at; it's not about buffing up either, rather excercising what you have, so repetetive shit in small strain/weight is better than a lot of strain/weight in small increments.

I don't see how either of you could win. What's the exchange rate for teeth whitness to total weight loss?
