Soy milk. Good or bad for you? Anonymous
Hey, a cross post from r9k. I forgot about this board, and I assume there would be better help here.

"I've been using soy milk instead of regular milk for about two years now. This is partially for health reasons, and partially because I've always disliked the taste of regular milk. I dont really drink it very often because I only use it with cereal, and it's working out great because it's shelf life is way longer than milk's, so I dont have to go on a binge right before it goes bad.

So a few days ago, I hear something about Soy milk being bad for men. I go to look this up, and it's a clusterfuck of information. It has a form of plant estrogen, which is bad. But also kind of good. It can reduce the risk of certain cancers, or increase the risk.

What the fuck? This is like eggs all over again. Does anyone have any information about this that isnt biased one way or the other?"

Fortified soy milk claims to solve every problem with regular soymilk. When I found out about soymilk and didn't mind the taste, I was like whoah this shit's way better than normal milk!

Then I found powdered milk, which has a ridiculously high shelf life, is much cheaper, and contains zero fat--just carbs and protein. Now that's the real winner. Tastes like regular milk too.

Unless you drink like a gallon a day, every day, I doubt the estrogenic properties are worth worrying over.

Unless you're a pro lifter who needs every ounce of testosterone, I wouldn't bother changing if you don't want.

As far as I know it's good for you.

What about rice milk? Is that any better/worse for you than soy or regular milk?

Plant estrogen is waaaay different than human produced estrogen. Basically the only way plant estrogen would affect you is if you had fucked up hormone levels to begin with and drank enormous amounts of soy milk every single day. Sometimes menopausal women are suggested to supplement their diets with soy products because their cells will receive the weaker estrogen (because the body is not producing estrogen as it should.) So, like I said, most healthy people won't be affected by the plant estrogen because their bodies are already utilizing whatever hormones are produced naturally.
