So, do you think you could outrun a horse?

calculate your own horsepower, then see if you can outrun a horse ever

That's subjective. I could probably outrun a really old horse for about 20 seconds before I get exhausted from maintaining a full on sprint with all my energy.

And it would have to be a REALLY old horse.

In the article it's more about long distance actually...

I'd run that ass so hard, it'd gain a six pack.

Seriously though, this is old news, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Persistence_hunting

A number of professional runners (Carl Lewis) have outrun horses, but there's a trick to it. Generally they pit themselves against a skittish horse who is startled by the starting pistol's fire.

i would prefer if humans were build for strength and power (=could rip out a horses heart) than endurance

Yeah, and you can check out the technique on video:

The trick isnt a skittish horse its getting a show horse instead of a race horse. They cant gallop because theyve been trained only to trot and the fastest they can move is around 19-20 mph at best. So anyone with any kind of sprinting ability should be able to beat one at a 200m or less.

You guys are missing the point. They are not talking about beating a horse in a sprint race. They are talking about in long distances, like 20+ miles. Point is humans were designed to be endurance running, and that we can outrun almost any other mammals in very long distances.

also 'under the right conditions'

note the articles said "In June 2004, for the first time ever, the human won" in some 24 years of racing. also, the scientist's theory did not seem very solid.

Well, I read a long time ago, that it was believed that hunter thousands of years back would chase after the deer or antelope they were trying to kill, and the humans would sometimes run for up to 16 hours, and eventually the deer or antelope got tired and rested, while the humans caught up to it and killed it.
