Sup /fit/

I weigh about 220 right now. I'm fairly tall (6'3" ish) so the weight is fairly distributed. Mostly fat, not much muscle aside from arms and legs (I walk a lot and carry heavy things throughout the day).
My problem with being 220 is that I gained 20 pounds over the past year. As far as nutrition goes, what should I do to lose some of the weight?
I've already stopped drinking coke and pepsi altogether (replaced it with Canada Dry Ginger Ale + Green Tea drink, pictured) and am drinking more water. I'm also eating more vegetables and less sugary shit.

So, what am I doing wrong as of now, and what should I be doing?

you fail because you're still drinking soda in general. Yes, this new soda does have vitamin C but it still has high fructose corn syrup which is a no-no around here. I have the ginger ale but I only drink a can of it once every two something weeks on a cheat day or when I feel sickand my roommates drink the rest.

Canada dry has just as much sugar as any other soft drink. Cut that shit out and drink water.

Simple enough. So. More fruit/veg? Less fruit/veg?

What about snacking? There's an international food market around here somewhere, I should have no problem getting any dried fruit for a snack.

Mornings? Either some sort of flake cereal (total, honey bunches of oats or otherwise), grape nuts, or eggs + toast.
Afternoons, either salad or the hot lunch in the cafeteria (usually fairly well-balanced)
Evenings, I just snack on some sort of cracker or some dried fruit.

you should eat 5-6 times a day but small snacks. Most health bars a fairly good. I use fiber one. 150 calories a bar and they taste awesome. not to mention 35% of daily fiber.

And a bunch of sugary shit in each one.

-Stop eating simple sugars other than the fructose you get from fruit, stop eating simple flour/rices lacking their fibrous sheath, and stop eating starchy potato shit all the time. These are the foods that make people fat-NOT meat in any way, shape or form. Meat is your friend in weight loss because of the complexity of animal fats and proteins and their digestion by the human body. If you think animal fat=human fat, you are wrong.
-Eat whenever you are hungry, and eat to contention; you do not need to worry about eating in moderation when you eat healthy. Trust your body to know when to stop eating too much salad and steak with a bowl of fruit. Believe or not, it just knows.
-On a related note, *do* eat red meat--you need the protein/minerals/et cet that only red meat provides. And any meat that you want for that matter, even the real fatty cuts. Fat is the best caloric source of energy.
-Do *not* eat whole wheat (which is junk food), but rather whole grain bread (at least 5g fiber/vitamins&minerals et cet)
-Any nuts/cheeses/whole grain crackers/fruit are great, tasty healthy snacks to replace your junk food
-You know you are eating healthy if you see a sudden (very) noticable change...ie, you will probably shit more, and your shits will probably be somewhat larger than what you are accustomed to
-The most important sign of dietary improvement is that you will feel less hungry as you continue eating healthy (lots of healthy fats/proteins/fiber will curb your hunger in a guilt-free way)

9 grams of sugar is not bad

Yes it is. In fact, it is your "HURR DURR this is acceptable, I'll even eat a few of these because they're health food HURR DURR" mentality that has made you overweight in the first place. Do you even know what 9g of pure granulated sucrose looks like? Let me enlighten you: a big fucking mound that couldn't fit in a cereal spoon without toppling. Your body doesn't need 9g of sugar, or even .5g. Little sugar here and some more there and guess what? Your a fat fuck.

Fiber one is THE SHIT. Love that stuff. You like that flavor though? I'm more of a fan of chocolate.

I'm still waiting for the post where you enlighten me with your vast repertoire of nutritional knowledge. I practice what I preach and my body is a testament to this. I'm just repeating what nutritionists have been telling fat, ignorant people like yourself for years. Please, enlighten us all with your magical healthly candy bars and Splenda power cake.

No, no, no.
He doesn't know shit. FUCK.
I'm fucking raging pretty damn hard right now.

9 grams of sugar is roughly 3 and a half quarters of a TABLE SPOON.

YOU ARE THE DUMBEST MOTHERFUCKER I HAVE EVER SEEN.

Continuing because of the dumbfuckingness of this person.

- YOU CAN EAT SUCROSE, BUDDY. IT'S NOT GOING TO MAKE YOU FAT. NOTHING IS. ONLY THE COMPLETE LACK OF SELF-CONTROL WILL KILL YOU YOU DUMB FUCKING IDIOT. That being said, there isn't any established "recommended" amount for daily sugar intake. Every individual's body doesn't convert/digest sugar as fast as anybody elses'.
GUESS WHAT DIBSHIT? DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW MUCH GRAMS OF FRUCTOSE OR SUCTROSE IT TAKES IN AN INDIVIDUAL'S BODY TO START THE CHAIN REACTION OF: GLYCOGENS -> FAT STORAGE?

- That doesn't really apply to someone who's over-eating, does it?

- Fat is required for a healthy body, I'll give you that - It's beyond me why you think less of sugar then fat.

- Completely-motherfucking-irrelevant.

- Oh, so now it's OKAY to eat snacks? Doesn't matter as long as you get you get good amount of nutrition from them? Last I remember, snack bars did that pretty damn well.

- ...

>>404923
They aren't candy bars, they're snack bars. They contain a healthy amount of fats/carbs and proteins per serving.

i was asking a general question. what do you eat when you are a busy person. I have a full time job, full time at my uni. I have martial arts classes and I have to get up at 7 am to work out since i am busy any other time. what should i carry with me instead? Not fruit im sure because that would be just far too sugary right?

>>404946
Hardly, fruit is a nature's gift to man--no sapien can digest the various compounds of fruit as efficiently as man (only thing you get from too much fruit is a profound need to shit, as comparison to chimps and apes [for example] who have a tendency to gain weight from gorging themselves on fruit). I walk around campus chomping on an apple or orange on a daily basis actually (or eating a piece of medium cheddar (ala cheese stick), or any kind of nut/seed until I'm satisfied). Although fruit is quite sugary, it has pectin and fibers and so many other compounds that really make the digestion of it a complex thing for the human body. Not to go off on a tangent, but it has a lot to do with the glycemic index (as does all healthy dieting)--fruit has a tendency to spike your blood sugar and then quickly restabilize because of the energy it requires for intracellular respiration. Yada yada, fruit is great :D.
