I'm tired of being fat. I tried dieting, squatz, "eating healthy," and all that other jazz. The results were too slow or I was doin' it wrong. Either way, do not want.

I've watched a few friends do the Jenny Craig thing, and I have some family members who have done Atkins, Weight Watchers, etc. Despite the bad reputation that some of these have, I've seen them work. I think I'm going to try it out.

I'm pretty sure I've failed up until now because there's been no one to sit me down and go, "Okay fatty. This is what you eat, this is when, this is how to exercise, and this is how much to do it. Now come back every week and we'll see how you do." I'm motivated, I just feel really discouraged when I'm not seeing progress.

I'm 5'7'', 145lbs, and a girl (if that matters.)

tl;dr: What kind of commercialized "weight loss program" does /fit/ recommend? Jenny Craig? Weight Watchers? Atkins? What?

All of those diets suck.

Eat superfoods, eat smaller meals every three hours, and burn more calories than you eat a day. You will lose weight, but just expect it to be a slower process. It'll be a lifestyle change though, and you'll be healthier and fitter.

Thanks for being awesome. But I like I said, I want to give one of these a try. Saying "fuck fatty just run" or "lol eat less" isn't going to change my mind about it. I've tried those, I didn't like the results I was getting, so now I'm trying something else. It's that simple. I also don't think that some of you realize that these programs DO involve eating less, smaller portions, more frequently, working out, etc. They just structure it and (like I said) tell you how and when to do it.

90% of things like that are expensive ways to do what you can do on your own. If you own a Pyrex baking pan you can make half the meals Jenny Craig will give you. If you own a pot you can use to boil, you can do the other half. It's portion control and calorie control, which are pretty easy to do on your own. Honestly, you'll be wasting money on something you just need to learn to do on your own. Yes, it requires you to think, but that's a good thing as well. You can't be mindless.

Dukan diet seems to be fine. It's also called protal.

I said it seems to fine for you because weight loss starts fast, so that may help you keeping motivated.
On the other hand it has quite a long stabilization period and a few things you'll have to do for the rest of your life. It's your choice.

It's only magazine covers and television that make you feel like that. Those girls are cherry picked from the poplace because women that slim are so rare. Then a photoshop artist retouches the picture to take out wrinkles, love handles, stomach paunch, etc.

Go for a walk everyday. That will help more than any other piece of advice. You'll feel better and you'll lose some fat, gain some endurance. Run if you want, but studies show walking is enough.

Drink something with zero calories: water + lemon, green tea, black tea, diet soda, you get the idea. Before you eat, drink a big glass. After you finish eating, drink a big glass. Whenever you feel like snacking, drink a big glass. This will limit the room in your stomach for food. You'll eat less because you won't be able to fit any more inside!

OP read up on how to induce ketosis and what it does, it's pretty much what atkins relies on

I'm going on a similar "diet" by the summer with a colleague where ketosis is the key.
Although here you eat as close to 475kcal a day as humanly possible while filling tainted syringes with pregnant womens pee and injecting it

I've been doing weight training on machines for a few weeks, mostly because free weights intimidate the shit out of me.

I was just wondering, i'm planning to start free weights within the couple of days. does anyone have any advice for a freeweight noobie?

I'll add my two cents:

Basically, the faster you lose it, the faster it'll come back on.

What I mean by that is, losing weight is about more than just the results. You need to change your habits. That's half the battle. Think to yourself "what happens when I lose this weight extrememly fast?". You'll be in shape but you wont have trained your body to eat better. You'll still have urges for the foods that made you fat in the first place.

I know I have those problems at the moment. I've only just recently seriously gotten into getting fit (6 foot one ince, 220 lbs last check and a high body fat percentage) and it's fucking hard.

There is no easy way. I still have temptations when I see ice cream (I'm sitting in front of an ice cream wrapper right now - tasted good but I feel like shit haha, I'll go for a rollerblade after this) or chocolate, but I'm training myself to resist that, and if I do succumb to the temptation, I force myself to remember how I feel afterwards. I grab my love handles and say "this is what you just ate". (I usually don't eat ice cream or chocolate or whatever, just broke today :( sucks.) It's all about training yourself.

I could go on, but I won't. Suffice to say - don't look for the fast track to healthiness because it's just a road that will loop in on itself and you'll end back at square one.

This is bullshit. Walking for exercise is retarded. Google HIIT or tabata intervals if you want to to do a real exercise that will make you feel great and lose fat.

That's all you need to lose weight. If you stick to roughly 2175 calories (your weight x 15), eat healthy,and exercise, you don't have to have a tricky time not being a fatty.

If you really want to be told what to do, here's what got me from not being fat, and it's cheap/easy as fuck so no complaining.

breakfast: oat meal (non instant, add honey if you want flavor) + banana + water
lunch: lunch meat of your choice + apple + milk or water
workout
after workout: protein shake
dinner: sandwich + cottage cheese + milk or water

Wheat bread on those sandwiches and skim milk, fatty

there, that's all you eat from now on until you can figure whether or not shit you want to eat is good for you.

Or really any routine because for most of the part it just matters that you're doing the work 3 or 4 days a week. Now on those off days, enjoy running. Start off with 2 miles, add a mile every 2 weeks till you get up to 6 or 7. Do this and enjoy not being fat.
