Sleeping too much makes you tired. Sleeping too little makes you tired. 8 hours of sleep is what it is for the average person, but you may be different.
I had the same problem as you, I'd sleep a good 9-12 hours and wake up groggy for hours. I found that sleeping 6-7 hours was about perfect for me, I'd wake up easily and have energy for the rest of the day.
Exercising helps, too. I don't like really any exercise, but I do enjoy walks, and even just walking a mile or two a day does wonders for energy and sleep.
