Ok guys, I weight exactly 198lbs.
I am five foot nine inches tall.
My waist measures 38 inches.
My hips are 46 inches.
I am also fairly attractive, or so I have been told.

I would LOVE to get down and be what I feel on the inside, which would be around 145lbs.

I love fruits and veggies. I would prefer other drinks but water is ok once I get used to it.
However, I sadly love sweets and all around bad foods, in larger portions obviously.
I have NO idea what to eat besides salads but they are getting boring fast.
I also live on a dorm campus so... yeah, not many healthy options.

I have a small problem with exercising. When I was 13, I dislocated, chipped, and fractured my hip all at once. Because of this, my right side is slightly shorter then my left and causes me great back and leg pain.
Also, I lived with my mother who used to smoke like a chimney, so I suffer the effects of second hand smoking.
Comment too long. Clickhereto view the full text.

Oh, and yes, I am a chick.

Can you swim with little pain, or is even that too much stress on the injury?

I can, but it is hard to find unrevealing swimsuits for someone my size.
I have tried swimming before and got very bored. Wish I could get people to go with me. xD

Look for a recreational swim team if you can.

And get different kinds of salads. Some aren't as good for you as others, but it's a start (I have a soft spot for a good cobb salad). Avoid pasta and fried things and eat what's generally accepted as 'healthy.' Egg whites for breakfast with maybe some oatmeal (can get, like... Strawberries and Cream instant oatmeal for that sweet tooth), maybe a sub for lunch, and... pineapple chicken for dinner. It doesn't sound like you want some kind zomghealthgoodcrazy diet, so just change things around a bit. If you absolutely have to have sweets, maybe after not missing a day of exercise in a week, you reward yourself on Sunday with a single cone/cup of ice cream or a single piece of cake.

And if you have access to a gym, try the elliptical machine. It's low impact. I'm having a mental block on low-impact exercises right now.

Thank you very much.
I would like a massive weight loss by July and then have a nice way to keep myself on track from there.

I want a life change mostly, not just a diet.

Definitely look into a recreational swim team.

And if you're at a larger university, they might have a nutritionist somewhere on staff. Ask around and see -- start at the clinic/health center, then check at the sports facilities. They would best be able to provide you with an eating plan.

Aaaaaaand, if you're looking for a lifestyle change, you absolutely cannot do it without a support group. At the very least, ask your friends/roommates to keep an eye on you and say something when you start eating something that you shouldn't or when you've gone a few days without exercising. If you go out with your friends, don't let them let you order some gigantic, deep-fried meal. If your roommates like Little Debbie snacks, ask them to please keep them in a cupboard with the rest of the junk food so that you don't get tempted to eat them.

And you can drink things other than water. If you're a hot tea kind of person, feel free -- I think I read somewhere that 6 glasses a day of Black tea (the tea with the highest amount of caffeine) is just about the roof as far as caffeine goes. A glass of some kind of red/purple fruit (pomegranate, acai berry, etc) is good, as far as I know. Just don't revert to soda, worst thing you could do. Seriously, after you go a few months without soda, if you have some... it'll probably hurt. Literally burn as you swallow it.
>> lolercaust !ObR/6Q0Rb2
>>69692
Few months as in 2-3 or more? Just curious.

Thanks, I like gun power black tea the best. Everything else just tastes like hot, dirty water to me. xD
>> Anonymous
>>69693

Depends on how long/often you've been drinking soda. I didn't drink soda for 5 months, had a sip of my friend's Sprite... ow.

And don't have sugar in your tea.

Your campus gym, or one close by, will be familiar with your sort of lifestyle and peer pressures and will be able to offer assistance. However, it will probably cost some money.

If you starve yourself of nutrients by limiting yourself to few types of food, your body will start to preserve energy by converting more things to fat for long term storage - it is uncreatively called 'starvation mode'. Try having some lean meat or fish with your salad and have a varied diet. Buy fruits and vegetables that you have never eaten before and find a way to prepare them, it can be fun.

To lose weight, just know that all you have to do is either eat less, or do more exercise than you did last week. Your weight and eating are probably balanced now, so eating less but with the same exercise will make you lose weight.
>> lolercaust !ObR/6Q0Rb2
>>69694
Never put sugar in your tea! That is blasphemy. xD

>>69696
Would this be that same, as if I was to stop eating as an anorexic would? What would you suggest for me then instead of salads?
I eat my veggies and my fruits, and love it. I eat fish when available (have to eat at the school dining hall).

If I was to add some chopped ham and other deli meats to my salads, would that be better?

Sorry, but wtf?
Bawwww, I get so easily bored of healthy food, sports and basically everything. Bawww, I can't do sport because I hurts so much...
Okay, then...forget about losing weight, maybe? =D
>> Moonmauler !!LgNbdvCFAuN

I don't like deli meats, simply cause they're processed a bit too much for my liking. The lean sliced meats aren't horrible though, so if you like them go ahead. Whole grains are great. Two staple foods that many athletes eat are natural oatmeal and lean skinless chicken breast. Try putting some fruit in oatmeal for breakfast. Blueberries and bananas are my personal favorites.

On the psychological part, first thing you need to do is to stop blaming others and making up excuses for your own situation.

It doesn't matter if it was your mom or an accident or the campus enviournment or what not that made you fat.

Your lungs are most likely fine. They are just out of shape.

Gradually get into cardio and you should be able to strengthen them up in no time.

Since it sounds like you cant run because of your hip, try a stationary bike or a row machine...anything low impact. If there is a pool at school, do laps in it.

As for diet, it sounds like you know what you need to do. Drop all sugar/fake sugar from your diet. Drink lots of water. That alone will make you over 9000 times healthier.

Being a student, thats probably the best you can do for your diet. Just eat proportionally to the amount of exercise you do.

Low impact exercises, like stair climbers, ellipticals, and biking are great. I have a similar hip injury, but these do not bother it. Also, start a weight training regimen and also concentrate on your lower body strength, to build the muscle around your hip. I've done so, and the lighter body weight, and I'm now able to jog outdoors, which is more fun than staying indoors.

As for foods, just eat healthy. Breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a couple healthy snacks in between and no eating after 7pm. Water, and fresh fruit juices are good, but keep the juice almost as a treat, since there's a lot of calories.

As for salads, put more bulky vegetables than lettuce (broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, beets, peas), and make sure you add protein to it. Boiled, eggs (no yolk) and seeds/nuts are my faves. Also, go really light on the dressing. Use balsamic vinagrettes, or if you're really skimming/daring, a light sprinkling of lemon juice! yum :)

You can also go with a small salad, and a special K meal bar or an equivalent. That's a good option if you want something fast, instead of burger and fries.

I'm not too confident in posting pictures of myself on the internet, maybe in due time when I get slimmer, I might post before and after.

>>69873
Ok, thanks. I was not aware of that. Also, would something good be playing DDR for a half hour (max I can do cause of hip) or so and then stepping it up once I feel comfortable?

>>69976
Ohh, that sucks that someone else went through that pain as well. I am also not very good at finding/thinking of core related exercises. Would you mind posting what you did to help?
>> spanishbomb !!o2n54vlWHXd
Make sure that the diet you end up taking is one that you enjoy. Remember, a healthy diet that you can easily stick to for years is better then an incredibly healthy diet that you get sick of and cheat on every two weeks.

The last thing you want to do is eat healthy for two weeks and then one day wake up and say "Fuck it" and eat a tub of cookie dough.

HERE'S A TIP

EAT LESS
>> lolercaust !ObR/6Q0Rb2

heres a tip: read what I eat.

I don't eat much at all anymore, or at least stay away from the sweets.

Eating "not much" can be dangerous. Too little and your metabolism shuts down. Caaaaaareful.
>> lolercaust !ObR/6Q0Rb2

How little is bad, and how will I know if I have enough?
>> Anonymous
>>71167

Count your calories. Anything under ~1000/day (if I'm remembering the number right) is bad.
>> lolercaust !ObR/6Q0Rb2
>>71175
Ok, thanks. Also, how would I be able to tell how many calories there are in a salad that I make from scratch myself?
I don't have any packaging from it because once again, I live in a dorm and have to eat with the dining hall serves. ^^;;
>> Anonymous
>>71186
Counting calories is a little too anal I think. I say eat when you are hungry...but make sure it is a properly sized portion.

Just be smart about what you are eating. Educate yourself on 'what is healthy?' Do some searches.

If you want to go beyond just 'losing weight', check this out:

www.naturalnews.com

As for doing DDR, unless you are some pro, fast on your feet, asian kid, I doubt it would be ideal to lose weight and get in shape, since it is high impact and painful for you to play.

Stick with low impact exercise: swimming, bike, elliptical, row machine

And I will say it again; stop eating/drinking processed sugars or fake sugars marketed as 'diet' products. That alone will drastically change your life for the better.

good luck

if you play on the hardest difficulty for 30 minutes, i'm sure that's cardio (so long as your breaks in between songs are less than 30 seconds).

It's a good way for nerds to get in shape. Drop the guitar hero controller and pick up a dance pad.
