Okay /fit/, I've never been a runner, but It's time I got off my ass and started. I bought a decent pair or running shoes and have some moisture wicking clothing from my time cycling. My question is do you have any tips for me (i.e. avoid certain terrain, breath through your ass not your feet, etc.) to help me out? I have some cardiovascular endurance from cycling, but not anything amazing.

tl;dr running tips for a beginer

They're called intervals, and do them.

Fartlek training?

cscs again, cooldowns are a good idea, i usually just jog back and forth in my driveway until my legs feel loose, stretching after is awesome and will help you feel less sore the next day.. but stretching before is important to help prevent injury since you have not been running for awhile.

id recommend all of the above.

fartleks are like intervals (at least this is how i know them) set up a course, let's say 3 miles. and random points in the course pick 2 spots, when you hit that first spot surge and keep that pace up until you hit the second spot you picked. basically you just make your own interval wherever you want and however long you want it to be on the course of your run, at least that's how it was told to me by my coach. (am a junior in highschool, run cross country and 3200 and 1600m in track)

I second keeping track of your runs. If you don't want to drive your route, you can use a site like Mapmyrun. You trace your route on a map based on Google Maps.
