I'm a mesomorph and I'm considering joining some form of Martial Arts. Is there any that would be considerably better for me based on my physique? Pic related as it's Judo.

Any advice or personal experience stories?

How important is the aspect of a philosophi behind it for you? (if yes, choose an traditional japanese art, if not choose a modern one)

Do you want a Striking (TKD, Karate), Grappling (Judo, Aikido, jiujutsu) or weapon related art?

No weapons, philosophy would be nice,

I like judo

Ninjutsu and capoeira.

How about a goodun for ectomorphs while we're on teh topic.

This is purely from word of mouth but I've heard 'krav maga' is excellent form of applicable martial arts. For a mesomorph it'd be perfect since you're already naturally buff.

I create my own martial art style by experimenting on different moves and imaginary situations. I can't work on locks, but I can do hits, kicks and combos. It's like anything goes that works -style.
My workouts are done mostly on the grass, but sometimes I train on kicking trees in the woods.
It's far better than those few karate schools I did for five years. Sometimes I’m so sore the next day, that I can’t even get out of the bed and I’m in a lot of pain. It’s fun, but it’s hard. I like it and nothing else really matters. :)

I'd say Tae Kwon Doe unless you're exceptionally tall. TKD is usually done best for people with smaller frames.

How old are you? you just cracked me up lol the only way to really train how to 'fight' is to spar with other people not trees and grass you loser

judo is the fucking greatest sport there is, seriously go try it out. im not gonna sit here and tell you all the benefits, just go try it for a month. you'll love it.

Go experiment and see what you like. Your size doesn't really matter if there are weight classes in competition.

But no, don't take TKD. I've taken a whole bunch of things, and most kung fu and TKD is pretty much shit.

boy i sure hope imaginary aliens don't kidnap you and then rape you, you sound like such a loser. if i did cartwheels in the grass i'd probably get sore-- i mean FEEL LIKE A MORON.

jiu jitsu is a universal martial art, muay thai isn't bad.

Just don't do Tae Kwon Do.

I'd say you'd be suited for something like Kyoukushin, Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Wresting, Sambo etc... where a medium build is more common

Less popular martial arts tend to have more philosophy than others (aka, Karate, Kung Fu) than new popular ones like Jiu Jitsu. Not saying that if you find the right dojo, you won't get it, but you're more likely in those to get a dose of thought.

Obviously you have no idea what you're doing, for two reasons.

1: 'imaginary' situations. if you don't put yourself in them with partners, you have gained nothing

2: kicking trees. Unless you live in a forest with young banana trees, kicking actual trees would break your legs, or you're not kicking them hard enough.

I nominate Judo just because of the fact Randori sparring is bad ass. I've done it for about 2 semesters at university and I love it. Learn something striking with it after you get grounded and you'll be a very well rounded fighter. Kano did what bruce lee thought of, but like 60 years earlier (ie take the shit that works ditch the rest).

Sounds like the kind of thing I would do if I was still 10 and liked power rangers and shit.

Jeet Kune Do for good dirty boxing skills and multiple range combat.

TKD is good form developing amazing form, but from what I've seen no real applicable skills are developed.

Judo will do amazing things for your body, I started doing Judo two years ago after doing very little physical activities for several years and am now in better shape than I have ever been in.

Also, you learn badass things like Tomoe-nage (The Kirk Throw) and an amazing choke/arm-bar/neck-crank called the 'Hell-strangle'

Another vote for Judo here. I'm in my second semester of it at community college and it is the most demanding workout you will have and is also fun as hell. Once you start doing randori you will not want to stop. except you will have to stop because your body will be so fucking exhausted and sweaty that it's your only option. thats usually when we have to start regular exercises lol

I’m currently 20 and have been doing this for three years. I started my training when I was 5. I’ve done two different karate styles, some judo locks and Basics of Krav Maga before. All of these appeared pretty useless in real fights. It’s possible to land few punches until your opponent dashes into you and both are rolling on the ground. That’s when his friends kick the shit out of you.

My ‘style’ is a mixture of everything I know and everything I see. Main idea is to keep a maximum distance to opponent and find a way to trip him over. Sometimes moves are too flashy, but it’s really confusing to opponent and therefore serves a good purpose. If a crazy back flip kick doesn’t work, I’ll develop it into a working one. It’s also a crazy workout, so I don’t lose anything even if half of the moves don’t work in real fight. I’d like someone to spar with me, but no one’s that bat shit crazy, so I’ll have to do it on my own. Performing various movements and combinations increases my skills of learning different techniques.

My own style suits me the best. Is it really that bad to create your own way instead of following someone else’s teachings? Did you ever realise that someone had to develop your current martial arts? Did you ever wonder if it’s possible to create the ultimate martial art? What would the old masters do if they had the same media we do? I think they’d do same thing as I do, but they’d have each others support. My current goal is to amaze people with what I do and help them to develop the ultimate technique. If I’ll fail, I’ll make sure someone else will grab the idea.
