I've recently started working out, and apparently I'm supposed to leave a day in between each session, but I'm a puny weakling just now & I get sore for 2 days after a workout, should I just go every second day despite the soreness, or should I wait until it subsides each time until I get used to it?

Sorry if it's a stupid question, but it's a genuine one.

Pic somewhat related.

Thanks for the advice. Is the aching down to lactic acid, or is it likely to also be micro-tears in the muscles?

Hmm, you have a point there. Perhaps alternating every second day between upper & lower body exercises might be an idea to ease me out of the wimp stage?

lactic acid gets removed straight away after your lifts for the most part

it's the tearing of the muscle, you need to let it recover

If your muscles aren't still sore for 3 or 4 days after a workout then stop fucking around and add more weight and/or more reps.
1 proper workout a week will give better results than 3 half arsed ones but only if you rest properly. DO NOT WORKOUT SORE MUSCLES EVER. it will slow down gains and in some extreme cases give negative results.

you can, but eventually you're going to have to rest your central nervous system otherwise you will burnout

i don't believe that, my hamstrings have been sore everyday for the past week and half. should i not anything with hamstrings for that whole week and half? no that would be retarded, maybe take a day or 2 off but even then that's too much for me. i never take 2 days off in a row unless it's 8-10 weeks full intensity, then i will take a week off.

I don't have rest days OP, but I have a 3day split. So I only workout the same muscle group once every 3 days.

If you've just started working out recently, then it's just your bones, ligaments, and muscles getting used to the stress. Hence why you're still sore after a while. Most people who work out only need to take a day off, hence 3 times a week is the most standard work out schedule. After about 2-3 weeks, you're body should be used to the stress, and shouldn't be sore unless you really push them, like putting on a lot of weight, like 15-20 more lbs and trying to do the reps etc. So, just take an extra day or two off for the first couple weeks. But the previous anon was right, never work out if your muscles are sore. Especially in weight lifting. In weight lifting you're trying to break down the muscles, so when they heal, they become stronger, but if you don't let them heal, they don't become stronger. Cardio is a bit of a different story. It's not as intense on your muscles as weight training is, it is more of getting your body in shape/burning fat and making your respiratory system efficient. So you can get away with running with sore muscles, but I highly recommend you don't. Weight training with sore muscles is a big no no though.

When i saw OPs pic i thought it was a pic of an ass, with the back arched suggestively. And it made me horny.
