Text Driver Jailed for Bike Death Anonymous
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/hampshire/7270751.stm

>A motorist who was texting on her mobile phone when she hit and killed a cyclist has been sentenced to four years in prison.

This needs to happen more often. Too bad it was only four years.

Also, this would never happen in the US :( Cyclists who die were "asking for it".

My cousin killed a motorcyclist while he was DUI and got 8 years.
I think this car driver should get that (or worse) because she made a SOBER decision to text on the fucking road. Poor cyclist :(

Well it sounds like a little bit of the blame was on the cyclists shoulders as he ran a red light. So thats probably what reduced the sentence.

But ya, she was texting someone WHILE speeding. Thats never a good combo.

four more years!

Am I reading this article wrong or did it say this wasn't the first time she killed someone by driving? Cause holy shit!

I suppose you mean this:
>Miss Coultas had earlier been found guilty at Southampton Crown Court of causing death by dangerous driving.
I think it's the same accident.

The wording was weird. Note the "earlier" like "Earlier in the year."

Goddamm, second time?!! Hope this time she learns her lesson.
I read on the news a while back a teenage girl did something similar, ran over cyclist while texting. She was driving so far off the road that the driver side bumper hit the cyclist. And the cyclist had no idea she was coming, just pedaling along in the bike lane.

lol, first glance, thought you meant cyclists need to get run over more often

taking a fucking life?

take hers for her incompetence

I sometimes text while driving...but I like to think I'm not that big an idiot about it. I don't put anyone at risk. I'll wait for a stoplight and text there, and I'll keep my eye open for any changes in the light. If I miss it, though, the worst that could happen is the car behind me beeps and I realize that I can go.

It still makes me feel unsafe, though, so I need to remember to stop doing it no matter what.

Just to clarify, did that cyclist run through a red light, or did he merely go through a stop light. The article says stop light, but people sometimes use "stop light" and "red light" synonymously.

Because after all, even though she should not have been texting/speeding, he should not have been running red lights.

My sister hit a guy on a bike before, but it was his fault. He came over on her and tried to pull ahead of her. This was six months ago.

To this day he still stupidly rides his bike.

>died from head injuries when he went through a red light
>red light
>red

How is the blame put on the driver? From how I see it, the cyclist is the one who made the mistake in the first place. What the fuck was he looking at while cycling? If he's crossing a road, he should either be looking to see if cars are coming or at the stoplight. That's just plain stupidity.

>The article says stop light

sorry I meant to say:

>The article says RED light

Yeah, that's kinda what I'm thinking.

They both screwed up then, and are both at fault. One is dead though.

What would be funny is if they were both texting

In such a case, I would ask what science had done
