sup /fit/

i havent gone to the gym in a year but i started a few weeks ago again. im trying to get rid of this excess fat but at the same time try to put on muscle. (you guys prob hear this all the time) if there's any way of balancing both well, what would be a likely diet for this?

Breakfast-Bagel, toast, muffins and tea
Lunch-Sandwich, milk or redbull
Dinner-Pasta, porkroast, and chicken pot pie are the average around the house

oh and btw my arms are definitely in pain, ive really forgot what this feels like, but i know if i keep this up it'll pass.

ps. should i start buying protein shakes?

reduce excess fat = eat slightly below maintenance calories.
put on muscle = eat high glycemic carbs with whey protein only right after lifting, and optionally shortly lifting.

At other times, eat primarily nonstarchy carbs i.e. nonstarchy veggies. Take a day off each week and eat what you feel like but don't gorge.
