Dumbbells Anonymous
Sup /fit/,

recently bought a pair of dumbbells, adjustable ones so I can swap and change stuff around. Question is, I've recently wanted to get more serious in building strength up and just bulking up in general.

Are there any .... guides for bulking up using dumbbells and other easily acquired things? I live in a small flat so there isn't much room :|

any help would be incredibly good, I'm 6'2 and 90kgs, Don't really know where to start atm in terms of how heavy on each arm.

If you actually want to bulk, getting to a gym and doing compound exercises would be superior.

If you are stuck with the dumbbells, than do this.

I was thinking of hitting the gym later on in the year, however other endevours keep me occupied for that majority of the time, what is the minimum amount of time you could blow at a gym daily to bulk?

You want to keep your workouts under an hour in general, no matter what you are doing.

I use only dumbbells and have made considerable progress. Just do curls, hammer curls, rows(you can use a futon or bench) push ups, crunches/sit-ups, shrugs, dips, find a good exercise for tri's. I also do one legged squats, and tabata method military press squats. Clave raises too. You can use some shelves stacked on top of each other for a platform.

I have 2 60 dumbbells a decline bench and a heavy bag. My friend has a garage full of equipment. Olympic bench etc. we both work out regularly and I gotten a lot bigger than him. Just work hard and you will get results. Oh and run too. I started Kung Fu a couple of months ago as well...It works the legs pretty good.

I have those york dumbbells and I must say they suck! The heightest plates that come with the sets are 2.5kg plates. Over time I've been buying more and more sets and now 17.5kg is the heaviest I can get it! The spinlock is even sticking out to the point where if it turned 180 degrees, the plates would fall flat on my face.

Just about every exercise that can be done with a barbell can also be done with a dumbbell, squats inclusive, save for deadlifts. In fact, presses are BETTER done with dumbbells because they activate a number of stabilizers that the barbell leaves out.

Basically, with a pair of good adjustable dumbbells and a bench (preferably one you can adjust to incline/decline) you can get a very fulfilling full body workout done.

I have those dumbbells too. Try 10lbs plates or the metric equivalent. you can get the safely to 65 pounds and 85 if your careful when using them. 2.5 kg plates are not the biggest available for that set.
