Can someone teach me how to use these properly? I always feel like a noob because I always choose a speed that's too fast and burn out in less than 5 minutes or I choose something that's too slow and get bored.

Is there a set amount of time/speed I should run? Or are there sets?

Common fucking sense.

If you burn out in 5 minutes, choose a lower speed then before. Aim for a steady jogging speed that you can hold for about 15-20 minutes without hurting yourself.

If your new, your probably going for weight loss. There is two ways to do weight loss, both are effective, it depends on your personal ability and preference. Weight loss happens after you keep your heart rate above normal for more than 17-20 minutes, so most experts recommends about 30 minute sets.

The first way is obvious, you do a steady incline in speed until you reach a comfortable yet stressful speed, then decline as you warm-down until the 30 minutes are up. I personally can't stand this.

The second way is to do a saw wave formation, doing higher speed sprints for 1 minute, then lower speed walks for 2 minutes. Repeat until the 30 minutes are up (I suggest warming up and down before starting the sprinting)

First way sounds pretty hard... since on the older machines there's no automatic incline setting and I'd have to manually do it while running.
