You can't. If you are genetically made up to have big pecs... you will grow big pecs when you press.

Also... why the fuck don't you want pecs? Pecs are fucking great.

cos pecs are shit, make you look like a transvestite when wearing t-shirts
>> Anonymous
You won't get big pecs unless you really work them. Keep your workouts balanced, stress other exercises and you will be fine.
>> Anonymous
>>175167
do them on a slight incline

other exersises like what? military press? upright rows ? shit like that

Nah pushups are shit, i can do hundreds of them, dont do fuck all
>> Anonymous

>>175212

like fuck, my uncle used to be in the royal marines i think he showed me the correct way to do some pushups, cuntbucket
>> Anonymous
>>175213

My father invented pushups. You're still doing them wrong if you can manage "hundreds," I guarantee it.
>> Anonymous
>>175213
you think when someone tells you to do pushups as a punishment you're going to knock out a load of effective pushups that hurt you?

anyway, if they're easy, do them slow/with hands nearer hips/with feet elevated/with hands elevated so you dip below hand height.

anyway, your post doesn't really make sense, do you want big pecs? a strong chest?
>> Anonymous
>>175218

stfu, this post had nothing to do with pushups, theyre shit and for endurance/punishment
get away from thread

low reps (<5) let you gain strength without size
>> Anonymous
>>175227

I thought there was a direct relation between muscle mass and strength? Maybe i should stop reading /fit/.

well, there is a relation, but it's not that simple.

Low reps (like 1 rep max) will encourage strength only, barely any muscle growth. Something like 6-8 reps until failure encourages a mix... not as much strength gains as lower, but noticeable size gains. It all has to do with the type of muscle fiber you're training.

Olympic weightlifters look significantly smaller than bodybuilders, and they're much stronger.

Olympic lifters still get fairly big though. Not as inflated as a BB... but big(ger).

It is a good kind of big though... it looks natural.

So are you saying 3x8 instead of 5x5 is better for skinny fucks like me who need to put some mass on their shitty childlike bodies?
>> Anonymous
>>175366
I'd say more like 10-12 reps per set if you really care more about size than strength.

Also, reverse pyramids (google it).

Thank you, and thanks for respecting my goals.

i'd recommend a mix. If you train purely for size, you're going to plateau quickly because your strength won't be increasing. 5x5 is always good, you definitely need some strength before you can start pushing size.

pushups work most of the muscles in your upper body. drill instructors know this and thats why they punish you by making you do them until you vomit.

its why a Marine who just finished boot camp will have a chest more like Wanderlei's
>> Anonymous
OP here, thanks for the ideaz goonz
>>175438
i used to do 250 (sets of 5x50) pushups every other day, i gained some a little strength. muscle and size not so much. waste of time for the effort i put in
