Hey /fit/,

I've been struggling with moderate acne for the past year or so. Done nearly all the topical over the counter brands and even some of the expensive prescribed stuff.. Nothing has seemed to even make a dent.

Today I saw a dermatologist who said that 40% of the time, it is a total cure. Another 40% of the time it is an extreme help while you're on it, and it disappears for months/years, then may return again later. Not sure about the remaining 20% but I'm not assuming good things.

From what the Doctor told me, the side affects are relatively low and he recommended it as a "safe" drug. I should be getting my prescription this week.

TL;DR version

Starting accutane, concerned with how long it will take to get results and the side affects that you have heard of/experienced. Also, will I still be able to exercise like normal?

When I was on it I had horribly dried out skin and cracked lips. I had to be careful how much I moved my mouth or my lips would start bleeding.

It was sort of worth it I guess. It helped clear it up from bad acne to only moderately light. I still have to use over the counter stuff to keep it down, but for the most part it's just an annoyance.

Basically, your mileage will vary on results and the side effects aren't too bad unless you start developing liver problems.

I was on it for awhile too. I had to carry chapstick wherever I went and I constantly got nosebleeds. Also, after I was off it, I had blood in my shit and turns out, internal hemorrhoids from my insides being so dried out.

Jesus, that's pretty bad.

both my siblings were on it for a six month periods and didn't have any problems really. my skin is already dry in the winter, so i'll have to really watch out for that.

It's been known to cause severe depression in the other 20%. My sister was on it and, due to her predisposition to depression, had a whole mess of trouble.

Fortunately, she got off of it and she snapped out of it. And then he face was clear so I guess that's a testament to the drug working.
