Atkins Anonymous
or rather, completely erasing carbs and sugars/starch, and just eating protien/fat.
Tried it before, lost around 4in. off my hips in 2 weeks. Made me feel as sick as anything. Tried to start eating healthy [fruit, veg, etc.], with a continued lack of carbs, but gave up and, yep, put it back on.

I liked it because I lost something quickly, which kept me motivated. I want to do it again, but would also like a combination of exercises I can to with it. The most important thing to me is NOT losing tits or ass.

/fit/'s opinions? [in b4 whale, etc.] I'm a female, 5'2", and am definitely carrying what I think is a fair bit too much.

in a lot of studies 'atkins' becomes sustainable when it hits about 20% carbohydrates. the standard bodybuilder body composition diet these days usually consists of 30% protein, 30% fat and 40% carbohydrates.

you can make a lot of positive bodycomp changes by first changing composition rather than reduction of calories. for example, stick to the fruit and vegetables as your main source of carbohydrates. take in healthy fats. eliminate processed carbs/soda/bullshit. make sure you get your healthy fats; i can't stress this enough and it is a primary reason why people become unhealthy on diets. they're called essential fatty acids for a reason. and note i said healthy fats and not fucking takeaways; most idiots think they're the same thing.

bear in mind that diets like this can take up to 3 weeks to adapt to and yes, you will probably feel like shit for a week or so until your body does.

also lift weights. lift heavy.

And right when I was panicking my thread would go all the way to 10..
Thankyou, really. When I was on it last time I only drank mass amounts of chilled water, and sometimes black or jasmine tea.

What are some examples of good/essential fats? Eggs? Fat on meats like bacon? I'm not too sure..

there are three types of healthy fat, and two that you should never eat.

the bad ones are trans- and hydrogenated fats. if you buy mcdonalds then you are pretty much eating hydrogenated fats; vegetable oils are hydrogenated so the remain solid at room temperatures. makes them cheaper to transport and store.

the three types of healthy fats are polyunsaturated, monounsaturated and saturated fats. you will get saturated fats from eggs, dairy, meat; easy to get. they have gotten a bad rap but they are necessary. if you eat nothing but them then yes, you will die. same as with carbs or pure protein also.

polyunsaturated fats are your omega3 and omega6s. the american diet since agriculture was industrialised has too many omega6s and not enough omega3s. used to be that meat, eggs would have them but no longer because everything is raised on dietary monocultures (corn). the ratio of omega3 to 6 is what is important. can be found in oily fish, or grass fed beef/free grazing eggs. easy out is just supplement with fish oil. about double the recommended dose is a place to start; they are a food not a vitamin.

monounsaturated are found in olive oil, avocadoes and nuts. also in canola. basically most oils.

the more you read by yourself the more you can get specific and exact with your diet.

meh, my mistake. i believe that hydrogenated fats are trans fats.

they occur naturally in trace amounts. that's the only time you want to get them .

as an aside, bacon is preserved pork. you need to be careful as to what has been used to preserve it, as that will collect in the fat.

you would probably do well to trim the fat of the edges of meat if able. while you need healthy fat to loose fat, if you take in too many excess calories you'll still get fat.

interesting to note that a number of researchers are crediting the obesity levels in the us to excess processed carbohydrates, not just dietary fat. there is a lot of info if you want to get stuck in.

Best way to strip fat is to do HIIT. For 15 minutes, cycle sprinting at your fastest for 30 seconds with jogging for 60. If you don't feel like you're going to die at the end of it, go to 45sec sprint 45sec jog.

Repeat this every day and regardless of diet you will burn off your fat within a month.

As for losing tits and ass, that depends on body type. If they're the first to go, then you're boned.

you constantly suprise me at how much of a fucking idiot you are, hammerknife. go back to your retarded 70 rep workout and leave the thread to people who know far, far more than you do.

as an illustration, she asked specifically about diet.

this is for you:

>Tried to start eating healthy [fruit, veg, etc.], with a continued lack of carbs
#1 - 0g carbs is not healthy
#2 - fruit and veggies are almost 100% carbs (sugars, fiber)

>The most important thing to me is NOT losing tits or ass.
You can't control where the fat you lose comes from, it's a genetic predisposition

WRONG

obesity levels in the US are due to americans EATING TOO FUCKING MUCH FOOD
>> Anonymous
I think they are eating too much of the wrong food. I have yet to see a fat person become fat because they ate 6 meals a day of fruits vegetables and lean meats.

I have seen people get fat because they eat 2 big meals of absolute junk. Hey ho.

I think I might test something like that once I reach my goal weight. Ten fruits per three meals. With necessary supplements, of course... Would be interesting.

The bad thing about Atkins is it doesn't put any limits on fat consumption. I'd go South Beach as that was devised by a cardiologist who was just trying to devise a diet people would stick to over the long term.

First two weeks of low-carb is hell; after you hit Ketosis it gets a lot more bearable.

>in a lot of studies 'atkins' becomes sustainable when it hits about 20% carbohydrates. the standard bodybuilder body composition diet these days usually consists of 30% protein, 30% fat and 40% carbohydrates.

As a note: 30% protein, 30% fat, 40% carbs is the exact recommendation of the "Zone Diet" - Why does that one have such a bad reputation then? Beats me. It's a great place to start.

For maintainable carbs, I'm currently on <50g/day, and I'm doing fine. Once every 7-10 days, I'll have a high carb day, just because I miss certain fruits that I don't get often enough, and it gives me a chance to have some ice cream too. Breyer's is amazing.
