Holy shit this topics gotten out of hand, I wasn't aware -asking- about soda meant you were absolutely addicted to it and drank nothing else.

I haven't drank soda in like a few weeks.

Depends on the sweetener. Some break down into toxins, some trick you into thinking it is sweet by associating a sweet taste with the excitotoxic effects on conciousness of putting your brain cells into overdrive until they die.

Here's my advice OP.

Fuck superstition, and drink it until someone can tell you something that is legitimately wrong with it.

Water is the number 1 alternative. There is absolutely no reason to drink soda. If you do and you're trying to justify it for yourself, you're a fucking fat pig deep down, and you know you're part of the problem.

Some people just enjoy the taste. Water should be your main hydration source, but it's perfectly fine to drink soda once in a while (...don't overdo it).

If you must drink diet coke, drink it with a meal.

You see, when your brain tastes something sugary it gets ready to digest calories by releasing insulin. But there are no calories in the diet coke, so that insulin turns on your fat storing switch (like the starvation response) making it harder to lose fat. Also, your brain tells you that you are hungrier because of the missing calories, and most people will eat more then they need to.

That is what makes regular coke better by itself. Sounds counter-intuitive but it's true.
