Read "The Mindful Brain." It has a lot of good concepts in there and I have mild adult ADD but it's been very manageable with this type of focusing exercises. Best of all there is science behind it and great explanatons as to why it's thought the type of meditation works.
Don't fall for mumbo jumbo. Things like spirit, yin and yang, oriental shit are not based on fact but there is some validity to them inasmuch as they are capable of bringing about good effects.
