Ok /fit/, I really, really need to know. This weekend, I will try out my daily cardio in the morning for the first time. Now... Breakfast before or after? I mean, your metabolism doesn't even start until you eat, right? But I've heard I should do before anyway. God damn it, what is it?

what do yall define as jogging though, a 8 or 9 minute mile? like what is the mile time that you are running. Cause i run an easy 6 minute mile while jogging now, but when i was fat and started to exercise (this is over 2 years ago) i was running a 10 minute mile. So if your in shape what time do you need to be running a mile in to burn fat well?

it depends on your body

to burn fat effectively (well, more like "to burn more fat than other sources of energy"), you need to keep your heart rate between 60 and 80% of your max heart rate

get a heart rate monitor to do it

of course, if you're not trying to drop fat weight, but just trying to keep total weight off, you should do a higher rate

you'll burn less percentage of calories sourced from fat, but you burn more calories total, so you'll burn more fat cals

What about if we're trying to get our endurance up? Should we go for as long as possible slightly higher at say 90% or so?

Drink a cup of green tea with a slice of lemon and hit the road.

it matters what you eat afterwards your cardio.

eat first, then cardio.

after you wake up your body is in a starved state. when you jog your muscles will burn some fat and some sugars. some of the sugar will come from stored glycogen in your muscle, and some will come from proteins converted to citric acid cycle intermediates (what sugar turns into when you eat it).

if you eat ahead of time and jog your body will still burn the same amount of fat, but the sugar it uses will already be available in your blood so it won't have to burn muscle protein for energy.

the key to cardio is doing it for at least 20 minutes at a nice pace. if you do that then your body will start burning fat regardless if you've eaten already or not.
