sup /fit/. A friend of mine sent this to me in an email to motivate me. It worked and I thought it could help you. pic unrelated.

My thoughts on bodybuilding and fitness.

Ok here we go. I used to be a really skinny kid through high school. I was never impressive, and I was the quiet kid in the back of the class. People that know me from way back can confirm that. A little over a year ago I joined a gym. Not only to build strength and muscle but also to build confidence and discipline. After a while I started to get good gains. My chest grew fast and it really motivated me to keep going.

Everyone starts somewhere and well, I wasn’t huge or muscular but, you could see I made some good progression. I kept lifting and lifting and learnt to love it. Nowadays it’s a hobby of mine and I totally dedicated myself to it. It’s one of the best things to happen to me next to: skateboarding, music, art and friends. And I’m really greatful for everything “fitness did for me”.

Yesterday some guy at the gym asked me if I was juicing, even though I don’t look "huge" or anything. He juiced the hell out of him and gave me some addresses where i could get stuff. At first I didn’t know how to react. I got really irritated, but the thing to do in such a situation is to look at it like a compliment and not as an insult. I considered it a stupid form of flattery coming from someone that “didn’t know any better”. Unfortunately some “friends” of mine thought I juiced as well. Ah well… the best advice that a real friend of mine gave me was to ”train harder than ever to get bigger and stronger by doing it your own way. “. And he’s right.

I’ve reached a point where I convinced myself NOT to care about what other people think. I let them talk. I’ve heard things from “you’re getting way TOO big” to “man I’m really happy for you, you look great these days.”. The hardest thing is to let it all roll off you and keep thinking who and why you lift weights for... I do it for myself …

What bothers me the most is that new people at the gym almost immediately consider taking steroids. Instead of training hard and pushing themselves to the limit, they ALL choose the easiest way to “success”. Little do they know that it’s not important when you get to your “destination”… it’s about your journey. The experience, the effort of working hard for every ounce and inch you gain.

Steroids have gotten to be so common that it's not like it used to be. My uncle said that 10 years ago it wasn't something that EVERYONE was talking about, you could usually spot the guys that were juiced, because they looked like they were ready to walk on stage for the Mr. O. They had to risk a lot more to get what they wanted, and it was reserved for the fringe that wanted to push things into a whole new level and they were willing to risk it all to get there (not trying to glorify it, but it made it more tolerable to me when I heard the trials and tribulations that people went through to get their stuff.)

Now, you've got teenagers who can get stuff at just about any gym, vain goons who simply want to try and build their biceps and a 6-pack so they look good at spring break. Honestly, ANYONE can accomplish what they want in time with discipline when it comes to average to above-average results. But everyone wants a shortcut because we're trained to believe that it's perfectly fine because we're all so busy. We do anything to shave off time to get to our end goal, and that is NOT a good thing.

Society has a LOT of fault in training people to think that way, and due to this, it's just gotten too easy to get your hands on the stuff. It's sad, but unfortunately, that's what we've been reduced to - a nation who doesn't want to put forth the effort and just wants to take a pill or a shot and get big and shredded without paying their dues.

Not much we can do as individuals to change this any time soon other than leading by example, showing that you can get where you want without that stuff, without meat in your diet and schooling those who seem to think that you need to inject a crapload of testosterone just so you can look halfway decent.

Just don't let it get ya down - keep on doing what you're doing, ignore the rest, and use it as fuel for your mission.
