Sup /fit/

I'm 5' 11" and weigh just under 200lb. I'm going to start going to the gym in an effort to lose some weight. If I manage to get my ass to the gym 3-4 times a week, and work out properly, how quickly can I realistically expect to see some serious weight come off?

I know everybody's different, so I only expect vague answers at best, but I want a rough idea so as not to get overexcited.

So let's say my current goal is to lose 10lb. How many months should I expect this to take?

Cheers

It depends on several factors. Your current level of physical activity, your current muscle mass, genetics, your current diet and your weight-loss diet, how intense you work out, among other things.

At my heaviest, I was 275. When I tracked my weight loss from 225 to 195 I lost on average 10 lbs. a month with 6 times a week cardio (5K nearly every day on a rowing machine. Halfway through, 7.5K daily.) and a diet of no more than 2,000 calories a day. I was in horrible shape and had very little muscle mass.

Thankfully if you're very overweight the first few dozen lbs. are easiest. I'm currently 175 with good muscle mass, and cutting the last few lbs. is hard as fuck.

10lbs of water weight is pretty damn easy to lose.

Lost 7 pounds after about 5 weeks after joining gym and watching what I eat to some degree, without treadmill.

6'1, 224lb - 217. Ramped exercise up a bit and pretty realistically expect to lose another 10 pounds by week 10...

Well, seeing as you tracked your progress from my starting weight, how long did it take to get to 195? (coincidentally, my goal weight!) fitday.com has me pegged down to reach my target by July.
