/fit/, I'm working on a novel. A female character is going to be powerhouse, but I want it done realistically, not some skinny twig able to knock any guy on his ass with the powers of FEMINISM and GIRL and I'M JUST AS TOUGH AS ANY GUY DERHERP.

Assuming she'd be of average build if not working out, about 5'7, what sort of routine would she need to maintain to be an imposing figure in a hand to hand type situation? How different is it from a male's routine? More rigorous? Any suggestions on how to make it believable, something I should add?

Make sure to emphasize the squats. It should be your number one priority.

Focus on heavy core and leg fitness, most women will greatly train their lower and mid body before becoming HUEG up top. It makes sense too, a kick has a longer reach than a punch, uses much larger muscles, and keeps the vital areas (Head, neck) further away from the opponent.

I'd go with something like have her be well trained in a few martial arts, like judo, jujitsu, and aikido. Have her be an expert at locks and breaks, using a stronger opponent's strength against them.
