So /fit/.

I'm 18, I'm about 260 pounds, and about 6 foot 2. This is just a quick question really.

I want to lose as much weight as is possible within the next 5 or so months (I will of course continue losing weight and then building muscle after this, but something is happening in this time I must prepare for). Would 3x cardio and 3x lifting be ok? This is generally what I see recommended, but I'm not sure if the lifting is really worth the time, I'm aware I will lose muscle during a period of fat loss, but I'm pretty big built anyway, and feel like the loss wouldn't be that big a deal, unless I can build it up a bit so that I don't look like so much of a fat mess.

In short, when concentrating on fat loss, is the lifting worth it, is it so recommended because it helps balance out the cardio by providing rests in between?

I'll have a few more questions after this no doubt.

is easier doing it straight up bulking up your muscle, gaining weight, and then cutting the fat, cause you burn more calories easier than without muscle. It'll take longer, but it's easier, and you'll look better when you slim down.

Cardio will burn muscle while you're working. Lifting will tear your muscles which will cause your body to lose calories in the long run. Muscle is also more expensive to maintain.

cardio doesnt, but it builds lean muscle, not the bulky kind

i reccomend do both, high impact weighs and cardio, because even during inactivity, muscles use calories to repair and power themselves in preparation for activity. i heard a figure of as much as 1lb muscle 15 calories a day doing nothing

>>cardio doesn't really build muscle at all but endurance work is canabolic and will eat muscle making you look skinny. you cannot build lean muscle because the appearance of a muscle is dependant on limb length and the hieght of the muscle insertions.
