I've been working out semi-regularly (about 4 times a week for an hour, random days each time) at my uni's gym. I intended to go to the gym every day, but some days I just get lazy and stay in my room until later in the night when other events are planned.

Looking around my dorm room, I have very many heavy textbooks and very sturdy looking pipes. What sort of exercises could I do with these? Should I treat the textbooks as free weights or does the way I grip them matter? Is doing chin-ups on the pipes a stupid idea? What other ways are there to get a decent workout without leaving a bedroom?
