Not a fitness thing, but I figure it's health related, so here I go.

I'm losing my hearing. I'm a cashier in a Taco Bell (yay :/ ) and so I have to wear a headset- but I can only understand a customer if I'm wearing the loudest headset we have, turned all the way up. My wife says I turn the volume up too far when we watch TV. I'm constantly asking people to repeat themselves in conversations. Podcasts I used to listen to are becoming unintelligeble - I've wrecked a couple sets of headphones in the past year playing them at full blast - I even have to change the ID3 tags to up the volume in the file, but even this isn't enough lately.

Of course, it feels like all these attempts to raise volumes to where I can hear things are damaging my hearing as well. Catch-22.

So, what the hell? Do I start learning sign language? Start shopping for hearing aids? Damnit, I'm 35, I don't want to have to be wearing a hearing aid. I'm scared as hell to go see a doctor, because up til now I've been ignoring my hearing loss, and I'm afraid what he'll tell me.

That I'm losing my hearing... or that I'm a jackass who just doesn't listen.

(In before "You're a jackass who just doesn't listen.")

More like I'm 35 and I'm working at Taco Bell. Alas.

I've tried the turn down the volume thing, but straining to hear really is mentally exhausting.

Oh well. Guess I just pulled a livejournal-whinge-on-4chan, eh? Moving right along...

*Sigh* OP here. It's got benefits, and it's close to home in case my wife has a medical emergency, which she does from time to time. It's not a nice cushy IT position, but it brings me piece of mind.

ANYWAY. Doctor's appointment made. Thanks a bunch, /fit/.
