IF you can't do one REAL pull-up, then do what everyone else does.

Mix chinups with static holds.

1 set = As many chinups as possible, combined with switching to a pull-up girl and lifting yourself up as high as you can and then holding for as long as possible.

Repeat.

You can also jump up and slowly lower yourself

I like how it's a picture of a chinup.
Anyway, try a 'kipping' pullup. Hang from the bar with your body slightly curved forward (legs kind of back), then propel your legs forward giving you some backward and upward momentum to raise yourself easier and let your arms do the work.

Can't really swing my legs, the bar is a bit too low for that or I'm a bit too high. It's already hard to try not to touch the ground, lol.

No need to be ashamed, we all start somewhere. Beyond that, pull-ups are a hard exercise to start. They use weaker muscles in your body in a way that you don't normally use them. Thus they take awhile to do.

Just use the suggestions in the thread and keep going;.

What i did was being able to do 3 sets of 10 chinups.
Then sometime holding the position of a pullup at the top position for as long as i can. Usually 20 seconds but it depends on your pain tolerance i guess.

What's the difference between a pullup and a chinup?

don't too many of these, it could put you in the hospital with rhabdomyolysis

and a chinup is the grip where your palms are facing you (easier for most people at first) pullup is palms facing away (harder for most people at first) but they soon become the same after you can 15-20 in a row

Chin ups actually became more uncomfortable than pull ups after I was able to do 15-20 pull ups. Huh.

well then your grip isn't as strong anymore. most peoples grip is stronger with palms facing rather than palms out. hence why people deadlift with palms facing than palms out, or alternate them.

When I started lifting weights, I couldn't do a single pullup/chinup.

What I did was use a box to step onto so I could start the pullup from the top (end of the movement) position. I just slowly lowered myself. I did this about 10 times every 3 days. A few weeks later, I was able to do my first chinup.
