PROTEIN INTAKE Anonymous
help me out here, /fit/:

i lift fairly heavy (45 mins) every 2-3 days. i looked into how much protein i should be taking and that shit blows my mind. here's the formula i keep finding:

.8g-1.8g/kg/day

my target weight is 190Lbs (~86kg) (currently 6' 235Lbs)

that means im supposed to take 69g-155g/day?!!1

Pretty much right-on. Not getting "enough" protein will not kill you, but it will certainly hurt any muscle building progress that you're trying to make.

To the OP: Reaching even 100g of protein a day, even without the assistance of a protein shake, is not that difficult. Remember, you should (hopefully) be getting numerous smaller meals in every day (as Jogger said), and if you just make a bit of an effort to include some foods that contain protein in each of these meals, your daily intake will skyrocket.

Personally, I am completely in love with Starbucks Frappuccino's (you know, the ones in thje glass containers that you can buy just about anywhere) and I typically will drink one of those coupled with a protein-rich "energy bar" at least twice a day. It's an easy way to grab some quick protein, and taste is most certainly not lost in the process.

Err, I guess you could do that. But I'd recommend putting together snacks to be eaten all day, like nuts(my favorite is pistachios, but almonds are good too), grapes, chicken salads, etc etc.

Use a food calculator when you're putting together your snacks though. Because this diet can go either way. You can bulk up on it, or lose weight on it. But either way you'll feel more energetic all day, and have the energy you need for your work out routine.

I forget his name, but a decathlon runner uses this diet and he stands behind it 100%. Not because you necessarily lose weight with it, but you have the energy you need to run decathlons.

He also ran like across the Sahara or some shit like that.

155g? that's only 6 scoops of whey protein powder! walmart and target both sell moderate powders for only $20 for 2 pounds. better kinds found on internetz, ON's highly regarded. Also, look into a good creatine supplement.

if you're looking to lose weight, you need to do a hard cardio workout at least 2 times a week. limit your calorie intake, but dont cut carbs completely. you cant expect to be healthy if you cut out your body's main source of energy.

NOW as for protein, your body can only take in about 25g of protein at a time. so dont listen to the instruction that say take 50g's of protein after a workout. you'll piss out half of it and waste money.

and if you dont feel like you get enough protein in a day, dont worry. your muscles wont shrivel away in one nights time. remember, the protein is only used to repair the torn muscle tissue.

Ahh, well if you're not looking to bulk, but want to build some lean muscle. I'd suggest the Abs diet. You eat foods that power your body and give you what your body needs to build muscle, but while not bulking up.

I don't usually recommend it though because if you're serious about building muscle, usually the best way to do it is to bulk and cut.
