I am lazy, but i want to be fit.

...and so... I'm strongly considering getting my skinny ass over to the gym, and start doing some weightlifting, running and whatnots.

I haven't exercised for a long time now, last time was 5 years ago during the military service, so now i look like a skinny nerd with glasses. So what do I need to think about before I start exercising again, so I don't damage myself or engage in counterproductive exercise.

This is my first visit to /fit/ so be gentle ._.

Well you're already half way there since you're not fat. Start with a few squats a day, and then slowly work your way to 5x5 squats 3x/week.
