/fit/ I just learned something new.

The physiologic protein ceiling is the maximum amount of protein a human can synthesize. Physiologic protein ceiling is generally believed to be 30%-41% of all energy consumed (% of calories).

If you weigh X lbs, you ought, according to /fit/, to consume 1.5X g/lb protein a day.

Suppose I weigh 200lbs (for sake of easy math). That means 300g protein/day. That is 1500calories of protein/day. That means I have to take in approximately 3650 calories per day for none of this protein to be wasted.

Keep this in mind: 30-41% is the max protein you should take in.

cool story bro
>> Anonymous
30-41% is likely to change after more research

And why aren't you already consuming 3650 kcals a day anyways?

vegan /fit/izen here

vegan/vegetarian/meat-eaters aren't all necessarily in good or bad shape.
Some vegans are pathetic and eat shit and aren't healthy
I'm a healthy person, if I ate meat and milk and shit, I would eat the proper servings.
Not all vegans are weak hippies, not all meat eaters are fat clods, nuff said.

OP here
i wasn't attacking vegans, but you thought i was which proves you are a butthurt veganfag

>>458410
because i don't need 3700cal/day
>after more research
what the fuck do you mean? i read a survey of studies over the past few decades, so i don't know what you mean by the insinuation that it's not researched enough

in fact, what i was reading was a survey of research in order to discuss the paleolithic man diet

conclusion was it's a really really good diet for every possible metric EXCEPT calcium

but one thing the paper mentions is that the generally accepted range for protein is 30-41% ceiling, anything beyond is just a waste

also you're a gaffot

Not relevant at all to OP's post and pretty self-masturbatory.

Butthurt caveman wannabe detected. New data changes nutritional research and understanding all the time with a gust of the metaphorical wind. And go read some higher quality literature, paleo diets do very well in regards to calcium uptake. I can also tell you're a tiny little homo who doesn't want to be strong.

OP proves he can be masturbatory as well. It's a regular fucking circle-jerk up in here.

OP here
actually i'm not a paleodieter, so don't jump to conclusions, Smykowski, I'm just interested in knowing about diets so I can tear them down when people talk shit about ZOMG MY ATKINS GAVE ME RIPPLING ABS

>OP proves he can be masturbatory as well
the "proves he is awesome" thing wasn't me, Smykowski

>go read some higher quality literature
JANA wat (protip: one of the best nutritional journals in print)
http://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&lr=&q=paleolithic+diet+calcium&btnG=Search gives plenty of sources in first couple pages discussing calcium shortage

So OP, basically any diet where is it has protein intake and lower carb intake and fat intake is shit and its the same as doing a regular healthy diet?

wow I love that picture with the data on it. I don't know where you fucks are, but in Colorado I see maybe 1 in 15 fat people
>> Anonymous
>>458525
Colorado is, statistically, the fittest state in the US weight-wise.
>> Anonymous
>>458525
colorado is a very healthy state--i think it's got the lowest incidence of obesity in the US

texas, alabama, etc. have so many fucking fat gaffots

i was in Tyler, TX and i literally saw a lady in a muumuu for the first fucking time in my life i raged so hard as she sat there with her fatfuck teen daughter who had a baby--the daughter and baby were both in muumuus as well

if you don't know, a muumuu is what homer simpson wears in the episode where he gets obese to work from home as a disabled person

>>458509
according to the studies I saw, taking in more than 41% of your calories in protein form is literally a waste of protein because you won't process it

the articles didn't explicitly say what happens to the excess calories--do you poo them out or store them i don't know

but you aren't using the extra protein

this is why i'm opposed to some of this fucking stupid dieting

if you're lifting heavy, sure, do 1.5x bodyweight with protein because you'll be consuming a fuckton of calories so you still keep the proper balance

but if you're not doing weightlifting and needing tons of calories, keep your protein calories at about 35-40% with the rest from carbs and fats

also make sure <10% saturated fats, but that's something most people know, including the FDA

>>458505

What happens to all the protein that my body doesn't synthesize after that 41%?

read
>>458544
namely, the part where i say
>I don't know
But according to google (AKA JESUS CHRIST IS IT SO HARD TO GOOGLE "WHAT HAPPENS TO EXCESS PROTEIN" AND READ THE FIRST FUCKING LINK??) the answer seems to be "it turns to fat"

>>458505

Who the fuck is Smykowski? The internet doesn't do gay ass inside jokes. And fuck off with the Atkins hate, he was a visionary 50 years ahead of his time. He might not be completely right, but he's not the one that caused the obesity crisis in America now did he (I'm looking at you AMA and Food Pyramid).

For the Paleo diet, the only person you should really be paying attention to is Cordain. Anyways, you can give me all kinds of journals, but I can't teach you to read and understand them (or properly cite).

Exhibit A:
>The nutritional characteristics of a contemporary diet based upon Paleolithic food groups

If you weren't such a noob, you can see Cordain's talking about a specific kind of paleo diet they used for for the experiment. Idk what group or what model he's trying to mimic, but the paleo diet is a general term, it's hard to apply a specific label to a diet with such endless configurations. See, you have all kinds of hunter/gatherer groups around the world that will eat the complete inverse of what they did for this study. Inuits in Greenland will eat a near completely protein and fat diet, with little carbs. !Kung bushmen in africa have a hard time getting their hands on greens, but amazon tribesmen have an abundant source of them. You see where I'm getting at? What is considered a true paleolithic diet?

Exhibit B:
>Biological and Clinical Potential of a Palaeolithic Diet

Now this article by Cordain goes on to say calcium is abundant in a paleo diet, with the only caveat being that a lot of green leafy vegetables are needed to be consumed. Kindof contradicts your retarded claims about calcium there, buddy.

what the fuck.

are you saying that your body can synthesize more protein if you also eat more carbs and fat at the same time???

and what the fuck do you mean by synthesizing protein anyway, or are you just using that as a random word because you don't understand what happens to your food when you eat it.
>> Anonymous
Protip: The more you weightlift, the more protein your body can turn into muscle.
>> Anonymous
I've personally heard 1g of protein per pound of mass when you're trying to gain weight. Seems more plausible to me. between 2500-3000 caloric intake then.
>> Anonymous
>>458667

That's not enough protein
>> Anonymous
>>458471
No, he's not. But I see you are not yet the first meatfag with the powers of common sense and reason.
>> Anonymous
>>458399
so to sum up, you need to eat enough calories for your body to have the energy to metabolise (use) the protein you eat. if you undereat, the body can't make use of the protein.

no?
