so /fit/, got my wisdom teeth taken out this morning. I'm not in too much pain right now, but it comes and goes. I refuse to take any vicodin. I have been icing it all day and using gauze with teabags when they have started bleeding. Any other tips?
>> Anonymous
Take the fucking vicodin.

Stop being a little bitch. Take the drugs or shut the fuck up, you have no right to complain.

I get all 4 taken out next monday. All of them are impacted but the doctor said something like the nerves haven't connected yet or something so at least that's one positive.

They are going to give me a butterfly IV to knock me.

Anyone have any advice for recovery? I am taking the whole week off of work just in case, but I'm kind of wondering how active I can be. Can I still exercise and shit, just can't drink with straws and that sort of thing?

Anyone who has gotten them

>>245456
When I had mine out, the top ones were impacted and the bottom ones were still essentially part of my jaw bone and had to be sawed out. The third day afterward was the worst just because of how sore my jaw was from them wrenching it around. Just don't make any plans for a few days, chill out on the couch and get plenty of rest.

If you happen to smoke the green stuff, just be very careful if you toke up. Do it gently - a friend of mine started bleeding a bunch in the mouth from the suction of taking too hard a pull.

>>245456
Get some good drinks, movies/internets and really soft foods (yogurt, etc) on hand for the first couple of days. You're not gonna want to strain your body for at least a week, it will probably mess up your recovery time. Just take it easy until the swelling goes down and do everything the doctor tells you.

Shut up you bunch of fucking pussies, I had my wisdom teeth out a few years back, I didn't need gas, an IV, or vicodin. You're all a bunch of fucking crybabies. At least OP is a real man unlike you homos. BAWWW getting wisdom teeth out HURRRT I need DRUGS waaah!

Keep up what you're doing OP, and dunno what you can eat, if they tell you soup just have broth (rice will get stuck) and don't make it hot. Colder foods will be awesome for a week.

>>245468
You clearly had an easy case. THEY HAD TO CUT CHUNKS OUT OF MY FUCKING JAWBONE. Go through that and then call me a pussy for taking some fucking pain relievers.

You know, there were other helpful replies as well. If you're not in enough pain to take the vicodin, then why even bring it up in the first place?

Hey samefag, let me feel sympathy for you because you need a mind altering drug to "have fun" or "escape reality", especially since you were FORCED to start in the first place. And if you would've read any of my posts, I'm asking for tips in general, I asked nothing about how to suppress my pain. Icing does very little for pain, it's more for the swelling and the tea bags helps blod clots form. Where was I asking how to make the pain go away?
>> Anonymous
OP, chill! No pain = good. Salt rinse, mebbe tea bags. No problems. I had 4 impacted too and it wasn't a problem. What I hate is the first sight of those FUCKING NEEDLES headed for my oral cavity.

I was actually put under for the procedure, but the nurse missed my vein the first time she was drawing blood. My friend said that when I woke up I wouldn't stop talking about how she missed my vein haha

>mind altering drug

protip: aspirin/acetominophen/ibuprofen are all technically mind-altering drugs.
>> OP
>>245571
Protip: so is alcohol, chocolate, and caffeine, among other LEGAL and more common things.
>> OP

I know chocolate isn't a drug, but can be "mind-altering" nonetheless.

Serious reply time OP. I had 3 wisdom teeth out back in January, and in general I've had an insane amount of dental work. One wisdom tooth didn't need to be removed because the molar next to it was pulled long ago, and the wisdom tooth came in just fine and replaced it.
Anyway, for me the pain lasted 2 fucking weeks. And that's not unusual. On the first day, it's ESSENTIAL to not go without gauze in your mouth until the bleeding has completely stopped. My doctors were fucking stupid and didn't tell me this, so I took the gauze out while the bleeding was still going a little and it was probably the reason it took so long (although I never got dry socket.)
Also, for the poster who said they were going to get the proceedure, when I had it they gave me like 20 different drugs to "consciously sedate" me. I mean, I asked them if I would be sedated and they said I would, but they left out the CONSCIOUS part. I was awake the whole time and I swear to god I remember the whole thing. Fucking sucked.
Anyway, another major protip: rinse your mouth out with hydrogen peroxide. It tastes like shit, so mix a capful into some water to dilute it a little. I had trouble with healing because I was just using salt water, but when I switched to that instead (by the doctor's instructions) it helped a lot. Stuff's easy to buy in any store.
I had a steady diet of tapioca (hey I love that stuff) yogurt and soup for the whole 2 weeks.
And I agree with not taking vicodin until you need it. On the first day, the Novocain should still be going for a long time anyway. Thing is, I ended up taking so much vicodin that I had to go back to the doctor and demand percocet cause vicodin didn't work anymore for pain-killing. And mind you, vicodin never altered my mind or perceptions anyway. No tripping at all. So I seriously was taking it for it's pain-killing.

It felt like some one impaled my jaw with a sword. 2 fucking weeks. I went back to class in a few days afterwards though, but definitely no real exercise. You've got fucking stitches in your mouth, NO EXERCISE until they're gone.
>> Anonymous
>>245422
Hey faggot

er OP

I had mine taken out a week ago and it was easy shit. Chances are, you might need the Vicodin for tomorrow because that's when the Novocain will start to wear off. Like the other anons said, the only thing that's hard is eating. Also, on the second day, you might want to put a warm, moist towel on your teeth to help the swelling.

Hydrogen peroxide? Damn, doesn't that burn? I had some Vitamin Water and it had citric acid in it..that shit burned reall bad. And I'm heading off to basic training exactly two weeks from now, so I hope I don't have the same experience as you.
>> Anonymous
i got 4 taken out about a week ago.

might not happen to you but here my experience:

the next day my face swelled up like a motherfucker but it went down and now it only slightly swollen.

i didn't take my vicodin either but i did take some ibuprofin, cuz my jaw was hurting like crazy and the advil helps with swelling.

gurgle/rinse with warm saltwater because that helps with healing and keeping your mouth clean cuz brush ur teeth might be hard.

you might also have lockjaw for a while.

aside from that get alot of rest and eat things high in protein and calories

>>245519
Hey there OP, just to know that's possibly the stupidest thing I heard all day. Also unless you forgot what you posted, you specifically said you're in pain but refuse to take your pain relievers. Still watching this thread however because mine are coming out soon.

>>245718here

How long does it take for the fucking bleeding to stop? my mouth is still going, not so strong as before, but still sorta. It's been 3 hours since they got out. Keep the gauze in until no more blood at all? or what
>> Anonymous
I lol at the kids who think they are hard core for not taking pain killers.

16 years in the USMC here. Shoot me up with fucking Morphine at the slightest chance you get, doc. Gimme those vics if my back gets an ache.

dam OP i had the same sideway wisdom teeth, except on both side, took hell to get it out, because i did it while i was still awake lol

People who let their dentists do.

I let my dentist do my tops when I was awake. Fuck that, never again.

Hello oral surgeon with good drugs.
>> Anonymous
>>245766
Yes, until there is NO blood at all. You HAVE to let a blood clot form well. Otherwise, enjoy your dry socket. Change the gauze frequently, buy some more if you have to. I know my dentists were too stupid to even think I needed more than just one change.

And I asked to be knocked out but they wouldn't do it. Almost no dentist these days does it anymore. Trust me, I would have it done if I could. I've had MANY root canals and tooth pullings and such. The only drug I'd highly recomend is nitrous oxide. That shit is fucking awesome.
>> Anonymous
>>245768
Fuck yeah, when I got my wisdom teeth pulled I was taking 1 vicodin a day for the first week then went to 2 and 3 (at 125lbs, I had low tolerance) a day after the pain went away
>> Anonymous
I don't react well to Vicodin. Nobody in my family who has had to take it does, either. If you don't want to, don't bother.

Stay hydrated, though, and don't suck too hard on straws or you'll start bleeding again.

bleeding might take 3 days to fully stop...

ummm, anyone here who had lockjaw when they had theirs taken out? its been a week now and i still can't open my mouth more than half an inch.
>> Anonymous
>>245976
Yeah, it took me a couple weeks to regain full range of motion in my jaw. Take some anti-inflamatory pain relievers (ibuprofin) to help. I also tried icing my jaw, but without a lot of success. YMMV.

I had all four of mine taken out together and had no pain at all, didn't end up taking any pain killers. but my brother had his four taken out 3 days ago with the same dentist and has been in a lot of pain, he's used all of the painkillers they gave him and started using the ones they had given to me.

>>245765
The amount of pain I WAS in did not justify taking a narcotic like vicodin.
>>245775
Vicodin isn't dangerous...? There's a reason you need a script for it, pal. That is the dumbest thing I have seen in this thread so far. Have fun getting stoned on the rest of your prescription and then having to break into your local CVS to get more, dumbass.

26 Hours after the surgery, I'm in no pain, and have no swelling. I guess the only thing I could complain about is how tight my mouth feels, and how torn up the corners of my mouth are.

Not every drug user is a scrawny junkie who will suck off guys in toilets for smack. Believe it or not, but there is a sector of drug users that are responsible and use them safely.

I've recieved 800mg tablets of Vicodin numerous times for a knee injury, but they don't get me high or even make me feel numb, what does a vicodin really feel like /fat/?
>> Anonymous
>>246789
They don't affect everyone the same. Vicodin takes the edge off bad pain for me, but that's as far as it goes. My girlfriend takes the same amount (one) and is downright loopy. We're the same size, too, at 5'7" and about 140 lbs, so it's not like it's just a matter of body size.

why did this thread degrade into an argument about people yelling angrily about taking vicodin?

some people just have a thing about taking drugs (doctor ones) no biggie....and some people don't want to be in pain for a retarded amount of the day.

i didn't take my vicodin but i did take like 600mg ibuprofins.
