Hullo /fit/ femanon here.

I'm relatively thin (5'4" ~114 lbs) but I've been trying to get some more muscle tone so I don't looks so squishy. I've been doing lunges, pushups, and especially jackknife because I want to have toned abs.

However, I'm beginning to notice that my waist is slightly bigger. My weight hasn't really changed at all, but could building ab muscles make my waist less defined? I really like having an hourglass shape. Pic unrelated.

nutritionfag here. my guess is that the additional ab emphasis is building the muscles there, but without a change in body fat %. thus the muscles could actually be pushing the fat to the surface temporarily. The key to getting more muscle tone is hardcore dieting if you are already muscular enough. If not, you need to lift heavy weights and eat well, then diet down. while dieting hardcore, you should always be lifting heavy so as to not loose muscle mass while you starve the body

I already don't eat much, maybe 1300 calories a day on average. Should I do more aerobic stuff to burn off some fat? I'm afraid of losing it from my hips and ass then having a bulky midsection from the muscle build up and looking like a boy with tits.

Personally I'm not a fan of bubbly hips and ass, i like a small firm one.. but i digress..
bottom line is, if you burn off fat in your body, it's going to come from all places, percentage wise. you cant just get rid of the fat on your belly. honestly to get a flat stomach you have to be extremely lean, i would say 10-12% body fat for a woman.
Now it's not just about the total calories, but where they come from. to eek out those last few pounds, you can't have ANY SUGAR. cut out ALL carbs with a high glycemic index.(which means they turn into sugar faster in the body) You have to eat all complex carbs(save for a couple servings of fruit, preferrably in the morning). Drink only water, or water mixed with protein. some healthy fats, i would suggest fish oil or peanut butter. When i was dieting (I dieted down to 150 lbs as a male, quite lean) I was eating 1200-1300 calories a day, maybe only 100-120 grams of that from carbs, mostly protein, and some fats. it also helps to carb cycle, eating 100 grams one day, 120, then 80, back to 120, etc. keeps the metabolisim at its maximum. also, eating 6 meals a day (once every 3 hours) would be the optimal eating schedule. I know it's extremely hard, but to really look lean and crazy good you have to do crazy things sometimes. in the gym i would stay away from long distance running, and maybe do sprints, which are great for metabolism, or no longer than 2 mile quick runs. after the runs I would lift heavy weights as possible. Now as a woman lifting heavy weights you would probably see the quickest increase in size in your hips/ass area(womens lower body grows faster than a man) however if you are properly dieting/starving, you won't really gain too much muscle there, remember the goal is to keep what you have while starving the body.

OP Here. Well, this is what I'm at now. I just want some definition all over, but I don't want to lose my waist anymore. I like my bigger lower half (as does my boy) I just want some definition and don't want as much squish. I don't want to really change my figure. :/

I think you're just starting to lose a bit of fat on the sides of your hips so it creates the illusion that your waist is getting wider. keep working those core muscles and you'll regain the shape.

OP here again. As far as lying about my weight... maybe my scale is broken? I don't know, it's usually right on the 115 when I'm in pajamas, so I figure I weigh slightly less than that.
