In cycling, there are different categories of races, and to get through them, you go from the bottom to the top. You can go to www.usacycling.org, to find a local race near you. Another option you could do if you are just getting into it, is to check out the Team in Training program. They train you for a century ride ( If you choose to do that,) at no expense to you. You pretty much just have to get the couple thousand dollars in donations or sponsorships, which accumulates very fast. But yeah, there are a couple ways to get into the sport more, to tell if you'd like to be more of a time trial cyclist, or an endurance cyclist.
