*sigh* Listen, I'm assuming you know what your doing with the 5X5 program that your on...but for the "other" people that are so vivaciously reading these posts, here's a link to one of the better 5X5 programs out there http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/mahler73.htm not only does it go over the basic exercises and theory of a 5X5 program, but it lists additional, intermediate steps taken after about 6-9 weeks on the program. To answer your question though, you should never really find yourself failing on the 5th rep, unless it is the 5th rep of the 5th set. Ceteris paribus, and your getting enough sleep and nutritional goodies, your solution lies in lowering the weight that your lifting. You might not have taken the 1st week of the program to test yourself and find your 5 rep max. I would drop 5 pounds off whatever exercise your having problems with and go from there. Remember, your not going to get the kind of results that the 5X5 program advertises if your constantly failing on reps or not getting all the externals right. Hope this helped.
