Hey /fit/. I figured that since people always say sleep is an important part of staying healthy, a sleep thread would be ok here.

So I've been having trouble with sleep lately. I have days when I've had a full night's sleep, then crash after only 9 hours awake. I've also had days when after 16 hours awake, I'm sleepy as hell but lie in bed for hours waiting to drop off. This week I've had erratice sleep, where I'm only out for a few hours at a time, at various times of day, leaving me exhausted and unproductive when I am awake. It's starting to affect my work (I'm a college student with traditional academic, independent filmmaking, and campus discussion group commitments). I've had problems with being awake at night since eighth grade, but it's only now that I'm noticing direct effects on my work. Does /fit/ have thoughts on sleep, either the health benefits or strategies for regulating it?

-Do you often do work in your bed, or have a lot of distractions like music/tv etc going when you are trying to sleep?
-Do you consume a lot of caffeine?
-Do you work out and if so at what part of the day?
-Are you eating regular meals?
-Any mental health issues like depression, stress or anxiety?

All of the above can have an effect on your energy levels and sleep patterns.

>>Do you exercise 4 hours before you sleep?

That's me. I also use my bed to watch tv.
Thankyou>>32729

Hopefully I will be able to get to sleep now, I hate laying there wasting my time.

1. I do work in bed sometimes, but I try to avoid it.
2. No caffiene, besides whatever's in an occasional chocolate.
3. Don't currently work out, but I'm hoping to start soon.
4. I'm not eating regular meals, if by that you mean consistent amounts at consistent times.
5. Mental health issues- you bet. I'm on medication for schizopreniform disorder, and while I don't have direct symptoms thanks to meds, the meds can cause side effects like dystonia and who know what else related directly to energy level. I also get depressed more easily than some, although I don't think it's "depression" per se.

I also have a medical condition that can cause muscle pain, for which treatment includes bedrest, or general fatigue.

On the plus side, I have more doctors etc. than I know what to do with, so I can get pretty much any question answered by an expert in due time. Are there specific questions I should be asking?
