HALP please /fit/

That is me in the picture. I am 5'5" and 120 lbs. I need to lose weight off my hips and thighs, which is pretty much the only place I put fat on.

My plan is 30 min cardio 5 times a week. I also take dance class for 90 min 3 times a week. And I am going to keep my calories to about 1400 a day with a lot of protein and fiber. I've done this for the past week and it is challenging without being overwhelming. I don't want to put on muscle. The muscles in my legs are already kind of short and fat, if that makes sense, and I need to lengthen them to improve my flexibility for my dancing.

So, any suggestions for me? Will this help take the fat off. Anyone know much about women's bodies and weight loss?

So that you can climb on ceilings?

You like fine to me.

But if thats your plan, with all that cardio, then yes you will start shedding down.

Watch what you eat. If you want a snack, I suggest non-roasted almonds with water. It'll take the hunger away.
>> Anonymous
lol @ lengthen legs bit. You want to loosen up your hip flexors, so, I dunno google it. I'm going back to /b/.
>> Anonymous
>>27652
K all is forgiven. The excercising sounds great, but that seems like a lot of calories for a 5'5". That is my only suggestion other than ask your gfs.
>> Anonymous
>>27653

I think climbing on ceilings would be awesome! But ideally I am just looking for that sort of flexibility which I think would be more attainable with a little weight loss.

And I love almonds. Problem is that if I have them around, I'll end up eating more than a serving.
>> play !3rZQiXcf5A
Some people genetically just don't have skinny skinny dancer bodies. Your routine sounds okay for your goals but think about using light weights to tone your body, I swear your not going to get big bulgy man muscles. Don't over due it and good luck.
>> Anonymous
>>27659

How many calories do you recommend? I want to avoid becoming ravenous and eating an entire cake.
>> Anonymous
Gah. The harder you work, the more calories you're going to need. And you do look fine. Very nice! If you want to tone your legs, which is what it sounds like, cardio is the way to go, anyway. Try some gentle-ish inclines, lower resistance biking or ellipticals. Go fast! And just stretch for improved flex. Not so much as it hurts, though.

re: the almonds.
My sister told me that eating a handful of almonds would make me less hungry, I replied, YEAH! A whole handful of almonds less hungry. Haha.

Goddamn it OP. Whatever "fat" you think you have isn't hindering your flexibility. It is dependent on the muscles beneath your skinny fat.

>>27638
Don't go below 1100 like that guy said. That is not good on any plan. Your calories per day, when exercising, should be about 1700.

1400 is pretty low, so be careful, I would say only go that low on days you dont exercise, and even then 1500 would be alright.

High protein yes. You should probably focus on weight loss through weight lifting, if you're down with that, as you'll lose fat and gain some muscle, which is always fantastic. You say you dont want to, but thats probably because you're concerned about getting too much - you wont, never happen, so dont worry. More muscle = more calories consumed by body = better weight control with less work.

>If you’re inclined to attain a more athletic, solid, muscular appearance, you’re of a body type (mesomorph) that is utterly disinclined to develop the so-called “long, lean” look.

>> Anonymous
I'm saying for quick weightloss. you should obviously take vitamins, but you will not lose weight if you just work out and then take in enough calories to balance out what you just did. You have to keep your metabolism going and send it after the fat once in a while or you'll just stay the same weight.

>>27703

Thank you for your advice. I just graduated from college and I'm living at home right now, which means a treadmill and bike in the basement, but no weights, and a current lack of money to pay for a gym membership. I do things like push-ups and sit-ups to try to stay toned though.

"Body types" are excuses for people to be fat.

Everyone can appear height-weight-muscle appropriate. You can't make your bones longer, or your muscles, but you can exercise them correctly and everyone is capable of looking lean. Long and lean is about height and body proportion. Not about muscle.

>> Hammerknife !7ITukp3Pj2
More importantly, a pound of muscle is smaller than a pound of fat. Work out, burn the fat, build muscle, and you'll look thinner yet be stronger - the 'awesome buff girl' kind of muscular, not 'butch lesbian buff' muscular, which is impossible without roids.

Just make sure your body fat % doesn't go too low.
>> Anonymous
>>27735
Guy who told u to eat less. I'm by no means a nutritionist, but if you want to lose fat, it is obvious that you have to burn said fat and not add more, so you cannot eat enough to restore calories burnt. How muck you eat in a day will determine how fast you lose your weight. If you stick to what you are doing now and actually do aerobics 5 days a week + the other stuff, i'd guess you'll be down 20 bucks in two months or so. If you do 14-1500 some days 1-3 and 1000-1300 3-5 days with proper vitamin intake, you could be down 15 to 20 lbs in three weeks or so. Do be careful about the anorexia thing though.

ITT: Losers act nice.

To OP, you already do some cardio and in general, are off your ass. You are not really fat at your hips or thighs. It seems like you want to keep from gaining weight there but I think you're fucked. If you are already dancing you've probably reached a fitness level close to your optimum. You can do more to burn more, but with only 1400 calories you could do more harm than good.

But if you stop being active, you will become Xbox huge. Chances are, you'll look like a big fucking pear in 15-20 years. It's okay though, most women do. Stop watching so many Victoria's secret commercials.

*Eat more vegetables and high fibre foods.

> I need to lengthen them to improve my flexibility for my dancing.

if all you need to manage is splits, you just have to stretch more. Unless you want to be a fucking contortionist, being skinny isn't a magic key to flexibility.

I'm male, about 180 cm tall and weigh 80 kg, and I'm about three inches away from the splits. Fat does not hinder flexibility in small amounts, it's just more likely for fatter people to be inflexible because the same activity that leads to greater flexibility also leads to a leaner build, as a rule.

these guys are right you do look nice but they go over the top, if you feel like ya wanna lose weight for what ever reason go for it it's yor body.

Muscle weighs more than fat so wieghing yaself is prob not a hugely correct way of indicating how much fat you have, you are better of using you're body mass index or body fat percentage

I'm not sure on how to calculate these but im sure someone else does

also god on ya for wanting to keep fit you already look in great sahpe so things can only get better from there, working out doesn't always mean you'll get super skinny and boney looking like what i think these guys are refering too but it doesn't mean that you'll get super muscles either.

It takes alot of dedication and experimentation to find whats right for you

diet is a huge part of it get your metabolism sorking right and you'll find it easy to keep a great fgure and feel great

good luck

You have the "skinny fat" condition or atleast are becoming like one without any effort since exercise is your main priority. you lose muscle at a much greater rate after long exercise sessions you have to EAT to repair them.

Instead focus on nutrition and concentrate on diet. Eat the same amount of Protein as Carbs You weight 120 lbs have atleast 120 grams of protein everyday.

Eggs have 5 g protein, chicken breasts have about 30g. beans around 10 per 100 g. you get the idea how much you need to eat. It can be done in 5-6 meals for the day.

All right.

With regard to women's bodies and weight loss, it's pretty straightforward. To lose weight, calories in < calories out. Calories in can be moderated by diet. Calories out can be moderated by muscle mass and exercise. This is the same for everyone, regardless of gender. Women unfortunately have it worse than men for the muscle mass thing, and they gain muscle a lot slower. However, the time spent gaining ten pounds of muscle is well worth it; that muscle will burn fat forever, whereas cardio only burns fat while you are doing it.

Cardio 5x/week is a bad idea, especially on that low of a calorie count. If your dance classes are anything like the ones I have experience with, you are working pretty hard there. Don't burn yourself out. Do your cardio only on the days that you don't have dance classes. In all honesty, you will have better results with fat loss from lifting weights, but be careful that your lifting complements your dance. The last thing you want is to go into a dance class all sore and shit from SQUATZZZ and not be able to actually do what you are trying to get better at.

Continue stretching and doing Pilates. For your chosen "sport" (dancing) you need flexibility and not bulk. Just looking at your OP pic, I can see you have tight hip flexors. So does just about everyone else on the planet. Work on hip flexors and groin stretches.

Like someone else said, gun for 120g protein a day, and don't be afraid to go over that, especially is lifting. Try to hover around 1700-1800 calories; you don't have the muscle mass to sustain weight loss at 1400 calories.

If at all possible, get some weight training into you. You'd be a better dancer and you'd feel better at 130# having added nothing but muscle and maybe lost some fat.
>> Anonymous
I'm 10#'s bigger than you, but I am really flexible. My bodyfat has no bearing on it.

I usually do have a tv dinner every day. South Beach diet or the healthy eating brand at safeway. I know they have a ton of sodium, so I drink a lot of water and try to go easy on the salt with the other food I eat. So, fellow modern dancer, how much do you usually eat in a day?

>>28267

Wow! Thank you for being so thorough! As I said earlier, I don't have access to a gym right now, but I am going to look online for some strength building exercises I can do with just dumbells. My upper body is pathetically weak and could use some muscle building. Are you sure about the 1800 calories? That seems like a lot.
>> Anonymous
>>28284
Other dancer here, I eat very little, which is why I can't loose weight. I eat about 1000 cals, but that is mostly coffee creamer & burritos. I get paranoid if I eat more.

I have a good upper body, if I were you I'd get some resistance bands. You can get a few different sizes & work your way up. You can do a full upper body work our, minus the lats.

If you are on grants at school take phys ed. It's rather rudimentary, but I enjoyed it.
>> Anonymous
>>28303
You sound a lot like me. At one point I was very paranoid about eating and I think it melted all the muscle I used to have into fat. I graduated college in December, and I'm auditing the dance classes right now. I had taken a two year hiatus from dance before I started again in January, and I am so out of shape compared to everyone else. Sucks.

I do have some bands that I got with the pilates dvds. Maybe I will start doing the upper body section with them. I remember it being incredibly hard the last time I did it.
>> boneration !7k4hwAY0ew
>>28284
Well, 1800 is maybe a little high, given your current weight. Let's split the difference at 1600, and make sure you do your cardio on your off-sport days. Without heavy weight training, you won't need as many calories. Age is also a factor; the younger you are the more you can eat.

If you decide to train with dumbbells at home, don't sell yourself short. Get some heavy DBs, a range from 8-20 lbs at least. As far as weightlifting goes, no matter whether you are a woman or a man, you want to lift as heavy as you can. If your body is capable of, for example, pressing 20#, and you train with 5#, you are accomplishing nothing. Alternatively, look for some bodyweight exercises. One-arm pushups are great. If you can't do them from the floor, start by doing them off a wall. As you get stronger, do them from a lower point. If you have a sturdy doorframe, do pullups. If you need help there, place a chair near you and use it to help you up with your feet. If you can't do a single pullup, up your chair to get into the top position and then do negatives. This means you don't pull yourself up, but you resist yourself going down. This will help you get stronger. My final suggestion is to look into one-arm dumbbell snatches. They will serve as wonderful cardio, train your hip and legs muscles, increase lower-body flexibility, and also build strength in your upper body.

>>28322

Cool! Okay, I can probably do 1600. I am 22. In high school I could have eaten >2000 a day no problem, but my metabolism has slowed some since then.

The grams of protein per pound of body weight only applies to elite athletes and body builders.
120g may be a bit too much for someone like you, and excess protein converts to fat.
I would shoot for 80g - 90g a day, more on days when you do weights.

Also I think I may have a similar rib deformity, for my lower left rib slightly juts out about 1/2 inch or so, but I\'m pretty sure I developed it when I was 10 or so.

Calories are not a bad thing. Your body needs calories and they can come from Carbs, protein and fats. you just have to balance them.

1 g of Protein = 4 Calories
1 g of Carbs = 4 calories
1 g of fat = 9 calories

if you do a calculation 120g protein is about 500 cals i think.

Similarily foods have different percent of calories as protein.

corn is 15% protein per 100 g total of 110 calories
chickpeas is 20% P total of 300 cals
Eggs are 90% protein per 100 G
fish is 60%
you get the idea
