hay /fit/

im a fatass. I admit it. for high school and most of college, i did nothing except sit and eat. Recently, though, I decided to change. I've been exercising and eating well, and I've dropped 20 pounds in a month.

Now, I have a large frame and a good body type. My fat is not concentrated in the abdominal area. I think this gives me a good starting point to build muscle.

So, /fit/, I'm at about 260 now, down from my high of about 285. Ideally, I'd like to shed as much weight as possible before bulking up. At what point should I concentrate on building my body instead of cutting weight.

Any other advice for an exercise noob would be appreciated

Eat calories to maintain, and lift heavy.

Why lift heavy?

love, OP
>> Anonymous
>>278915
If you lift heavy, you build muscle
If you lift lighter, but more, you tone the muscle and build endurance.

So you'll have to first bulk for 2 or 3 months and then switch to toning

Lol oh dear...

Lightweight and many reps = bodybuilding (BIG MUSSELS)

Heavyweight and few reps = strength training (Toned, but not so big muscles, although in time you'll get big aswell)

watch Ronnie's coleman training videos? he lifts very heavy.
especially newbies should get into a strenght routine because you can't get big if you're weak.

lol woot? that means that every new guy would just come in and bench 10kg 100 times and what then, be a big muscle mountain?

More weight=More strength needed to lift it=Muscle growth
Less weight, more reps=More endurance needed to keep lifting it=Muscle "hardens"(gets toned)

Myofibrillar or sarcoplasmic hypertrophy idiots. Muscle is not equal to muscle.

Thats because he's been working out for ages, you retard. Eventually bb'ers will lift heavy ass weights aswell.
(notice how many rep he fucking takes, you idiot)

Watch how strength athletes lift, and you'll see they lift way more.

just fucking confirms what i'm saying.

And i'll even quote wiki on it. You fucking retards.

---
There are two different types of muscular hypertrophy: sarcoplasmic hypertrophy and myofibrillar hypertrophy. During sarcoplasmic hypertrophy, the volume of sarcoplasmic fluid in the muscle cell increases with no accompanying increase in muscular strength. During myofibrillar hypertrophy, the myofibrils, comprised of the actin and myosin contractile proteins, increase in number and add to muscular strength as well as a small increase in the size of the muscle.
.
.
.
Strength training typically produces a combination of the two different types of hypertrophy: contraction against 80 to 90% of the one repetition maximum for two to eight repetitions (reps) causes myofibrillated hypertrophy to dominate (as in powerlifters, olympic lifters and strength athletes), while several repetitions (generally 12 or more) against a sub-maximal load facilitates mainly sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (professional bodybuilders and endurance athletes).

You fuckwits gonna keep on saying your retard shit?
