I'm looking for a way to get a stronger headlock for grappling. Does anyone know of any good workout routines for that? Or maybe even some kind of machine/device to help out, kind of like a grip strengthener. Can't find anything on teh interbuttz.
>> Anonymous
change your grip to a Gable grip or a 3 finger hold, lower your hips and ride his chest
>> Anonymous
You could use a neck sized log.
>> Anonymous
You're not gonna pin anyone with a headlock, so why bother

3 finger hold would break someones fingers, i agree with Gable grip. but i am pretty sure OP is doing that since its a standard wrestling grip

False

Just strengthen your forearms. I always preferred the stick/rope/weight combo to build strength/muscular endurance for those sort of things.

it's not so much the technique i need, i've got that down pretty well. I"m talking more of muscle training. I"ve heard stories of people making some things that are similar to grip strengtheners for it (something like 2x4's with a spring in the middle that they exercise with). anyone know of anything like that?

Ok correction, you're not going to pin anyone GOOD with a headlock

Captains of Crush gripper

OP here. and i definitely agree with you, but the strength there is still really useful to have. and not necessarily just for wrestling. you'd be surprised at who you can submit with that headlock if you keep your hips out, stay on their chest, and crank their head up.

Wrestling is so very homoerotic.

Unless that bastard knows how to arch like a bridge a headlock is a tried and true method. Be aggressive on your lock and stack your COG right below his/hers.
>> Anonymous
>>438925
OP should just worry about regular strength and conditioning training and just drill the tech, proper tech will help in the long road of training
>> Anonymous
OP should work on sweeping and transitions found in Judo and BJJ that would help his wrestling game

Ok, now you have proven to me that you're not a jackass, so I'll help. You want a stronger grip, biceps, and lats if you want to crush someone in a headlock.

For grip strength, someone mentioned a Captains of Crush gripper, that's good. If you don't want to buy one, focus on heavy farmers walks and deadlifts. You''re grip will get wicked strong. There's another one but I'll save that for the next muscle group.

Lats you want to be doing pull-ups (bodyweight and with a dip belt) and barbell rows. Do chin ups to hit your biceps to a degree. To work your grip extra hard during pull-ups drape a towel over the bar and hang from the towel. Shit will fry your grip. Also, when doing your DL's to hit your lats you will want to use a snatch grip.

Biceps get worked by heavy bicept CURLZ.

You must be new to wrestling. EVERY wrestler knows how to bridge. I stopped pinning guys with headlocks I think in like 10th grade. Wait until you get to college, lol you'll never pin anyone again.

medicine balls have been great for my wrestling, buy one

That won't stop your breathing, just make it harder to breath. That'll wear someone out and make them easier to beat later, but only a pussy would actually tap to it.

Well as i said, it's not the technique or practice i'm looking for. I'm asking about a training routine that may be able to specifically strengthen the muscles I need for a tighter grip with my headlock. I think I've seen some things that do that, similar to what a grip strengthener does for your grip. It's specifically for a headlock.

craddles and side control pins FTW, remember walk your opponent if he starts bridging out of your pin and keep him tight like a small package. not sure if it is allowed in wrestling but in judo if someone you know is stronger then you and you pin them, go for a knee on belly ride, sucks up their cardio hell of quick

many thanks. i'll be sure to take note.

And for those acting like this is the only move I'm going to use to try to pin or even submit people with, it's not. I usually stick with standing double legs or a fast outside single, and use submission moves when I want to submit, or pinning combinations when I want to pin them. But headlocks present themselves a lot, and you'd be an idiot not to go for it when it's there. And yes, it can pin or even submit a decent opponent when you do it right. Not every time, but it's not a waste of time to work on it.

This gets done every Monday and Friday. I'm assuming you have some weightlifting experience under your belt. If you don't, let me know and I'll draw up another regimen.

Sets x reps

warm-up
10x3 snatch grip deadlift
3x5 weighted towel grip pull-up
5x5 bicep curls
Finish off with farmers walks, if you can even close your hands at this point.

>>438968

My new favorite move is to hit the double leg or high-c, turk and half-nelson them in mid air, follow through and pin. If you can envision this in your head and apply it, you're going to be pinning even more fools in the future.

The general public perception of grappling being somehow homoerotic is a sad reflection on the deep seated homophobia that has been conditioned into the average person.

No, I really do get off on wrassling. Use whatever arguments you'd like to justify why it isn't homoerotic.

It's because they don't teach it in middle school PE anymore. They don't teach anything cool anymore, just lameass kickball. That's the age when you're supposed to be forced to do sports. Now kids grow up without ever having their asses kicked on the mat, and never learn to be in awe and fear of how tough wrestling is. Now these little shits go through life calling anyone who wrestles a faggot, as they go home and fap off to gay porn.

Hey, if guys are allowed to get off on "lesbians" in pornos, surely I'm allowed to think two guys rolling around and grunting and fighting for dominance on the floor or a mat or whatever is sexy as hell. You can't take this away from me.

I definitely like that move but I never practiced it enough to be good at it. That's an awesome combination though.
