I have a decent understanding of how muscles work, I think.. They tense/retract to pull and create force in general or w.e
But I have no idea how abs work, they're completely different from every muscle in the entire body.
Can someone explain why abs buckle or get that chizelled effect? no kitchen knives plz
And how is it or what is it pulling on to do what it does when you do a crunch or.. anything that they're for?
need kenesiologist or smart guy here.

Well, muscles either push or pull.

So, your abs pull and stabilize, they are the same muscle as the rest of your body

They are the same as other muscles. They stretch from the pelvis to the ribs.

I meant the motion, not the actual muscle

kines fag as request OP

you actually got the idea rather correct. mussels only pull, but w/the abs, think of roughly 3 different mussels all layered on top, pulling in 3 different directions (planes xyz), so together, it makes them strong, captain planet style. (rectus, TVA, and int/ext obliques) look up gray's anatomy online to see their attachments, altho it d/n matter for your needs.

just know that abs are primarily designed as ANTI ROTATORS of the spine. program your work around that paradigm and all will be well

(ie. crunches suck, standing ab wheel rollouts/gymnastic ab progressions/squating/deadlifting are good)
