First off, different antibiotics function in different ways against different bacteria. This is why there are so many. For example though, let's consider penicillin. Penicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic (the broadest class of antibiotics), which work by preventing certain kinds of bacteria from generating a vital part of their cell wall. Without this, the bacteria die. A bacterium is a complete single-cell microorganism, and it generally will reproduce by a process called binary fission (basically it copies its own DNA and splits in two).
A virus is completely different. It's essentially just genetic material and sometimes sometimes some enzymes stored in a capsule made of protein. They attach to host cells, release their genetic material, and reproduce using functions of the host cell.
To sum it up, the way antibiotics work is generally by disrupting a process in the life cycle of the bacteria. Since viruses aren't alive, they have no life cycle to disrupt.
