so i've got a question about pushups, /fit/.

when i do pushups, i do them to the point where my arms are bent at about a 45 degree angle and my chest is barely off the ground. i have heard that 90 degrees is the magic number though? this seems like cheating to me, someone explain please.

For most people, around 90 degrees will get their chests close to the floor, but obviously people are built different. Chest to the floor recruits more muscles than a strict 90 degrees will.

If you want to make yourself look more badass, demand that everyone go chest-to-dirt. If they refuse and want to do the 90 degree thing, its still easier for you.

The US military standard is sternum touches something fist-sized on the floor.

Chest to floor kinda strains my shoulders a little (which is weird because bench press and dumbell flys don't bother me), and I think putting my face in the dirt/carpet/etc seems unhygenic.
