alright /fit/,
i do about 75 push ups, 75 sit ups, and 75 crunches every other night to stay fit, and have been for the past year. ive got some abs, as seen in the left picture, but im trying to get really defined abs as seen in the right picture

ive tried google, but i cant get a definitive answer, as i also dont have a very nutritious diet, and i dont do hardly any cardio work outs. in order to get the abs on the right, do i have to start doing these things?

you need to train your abs like any other muscle...want them to get larger, work them with lower reps. obviously don't go for heavy single. but do 12 reps. do compound exercises. bicycles, hanging leg raises, etc etc

first get them really big. then get them "defined" by cutting all that body fat. gooogle "cutting" so you know what to do to get a 6 pack.

endless situps and crunches won't do the trick dude.

you don't want to look like that guy...he is just really really skinny.. l put more muscle on and get the abs big enough and strong enough. Hell, work out hard for 6 months or 1 year at the most and then spend another 6 months cutting and you would have one hell of a strong and cute torso.

get into martial arts, its useful muscle.

try muay thai, it will make you one lean mean motherfucker .

besides obvious physical conditioning, start running, not just jogging, but working toward 3 miles 25 minutes as a start.

also, every night doing the same routine is poor form, you need to vary you routine for maximum muscle potential.

what? You think he has alot of muscle on him? That's a combination of moderate resistance training and good genetics. He would probably look good even if all he did was 50 brunches a night.

Yes, they do play a role, but there's a huge difference between genetic limitations and genetic expression. It really is up to you whether or not you'll allow yourself to be a prisoner of your own bodily limitations, or if you'll push yourself everyday and have the iron-clad dedication and strong attitude it takes to bend the shape of your body to your own will.

well what i used to do when i was powerlifting and wanted to look cut is this routine:

Standard crunches with a weight - 12 X 3
incline crunches w/ weight - 12X3
cable pull down crunches - 8X3
cable pull down with a twist 8X3
incline oblique twists w/ a weight 12X3 each side
hanging leg raises w/ light elastic band wrapped around foot and other end wrapped around a heavy dumbell 12X3
hanging leg raises with a twist 12X3

i used to bulk by eating a shit ton of quality wholesome food and doing intense lifting w/ very little cardio. one or two sprint sessions a week.

I would cut for 3-4 months out of the year (yes, it was during "beach season") and i would eat much less food and cut out 3/4 of all carbs, juices, cheese's and red meats and cheat pretty much egg whites, salads, fish, brown rice and oatmeal.

i'll see if i can find pics from back in the day..that was about 8 years ago in college..now i just do calisthenics and yoga/balance exercises to keep the old joints in working order and i look like a slightly athletic 30 year old lol
