Sup /fit/, honest question about weed...

I work out 5 days a week and go to college full time, and I have SEVERE insomnia. Basically, it takes me like 2+ hours laying in bed to fall asleep, and most of the time I stay up to 5-6am till I go to bed. My question is....How much does weed affect your gains and physical performance? When I smoke at night I can go out like a light, and it helps me fall asleep really fuckin fast so i'm not tired for school. Is it ok that I smoke on most nights to fall asleep?

TL;DR Smoke weed to sleep, bad for health?

Since I'm a pretty cheap guy, I tend to make the most pussy joints ever made (in other words, like half the size) and it only takes like 2 hits from a bong and that's good enough for me. I understand that it has tar and such, and I'm in good shape already, my question is this going to ruin me? Or am I going to stay the same, or see no gains? ETC

Every occurred to you the insomnia may be a result of smoking too much weed?

I used to smoke every night for 3 years. Then I quit and I had a really hard time falling asleep, and when I did I had the most intense lucid dreams. After a few weeks that passed and I now have more engery than ever, just never realised how slow and inactive that shit makes you even when you are sober untill you quit.

I seem to recall from the movie "Superhigh Me" that one of the few (if not only) negative effects the guy got from smoking constantly for 1 month was 5% reduced lung capacity. I smoke cannabis as well (usually hashis) and I mix it with tobacco, which is really unnecessary. If it fucks with anything I'd say it's mostly cardio.

I don't think you have too much to worry about then. I don't see how it is going to interfere with your strength gains, if anything it might help you eat enough. I know too little about insomnia to be of real help, but if it's common to use medicine to help fall asleep when you have it I guess you might as well use marihuana.
