This is a guy I've had the honour of training with on a few occasions. Easily one of the best in the UK.

For every celebrity status parkour performer there is, you get about 1500 of these.

:(
/fit/ haet parkour. Shame because it's a great full-body workout and I've gone from a skinny, pale fuck to.... well, I wouldn't say ripped, but I'm not as skinny as before, I've got a decent amount of muscle on me. And I'm certainly not pale anymore. It's also FUN :O

I'm guessing they're your average terrible parkour videos of kids filming on mobile phone cameras and shit, wearing skate shoes?
It's a shame that those videos are so abundant, because the people who are actually any good are often just out there training. I've been doing it for over 2 years now, and would say I'm fairly good but I don't make videos that often (or at all, not made one for about a year), whereas these kids make all these shitty little videos that mess up the parkour image.
While it doesn't affect myself as a traceur, it confuses people looking into starting, etc.

I live in the suburbs, how do i do parkour here

Oh hai guis.

Parkour is awesome.

Get a bus into the city?
Look at videos on youtube of people training in areas similar to you?
Go into a really wooded area like a forest or woods or whatever, and see what you can do. Until you really start training, it's hard to find places to train on.
The best advice for someone starting is to find someone who does parkour and learn off them. They can show you some techniques, help you spot shit and generally really help you out.

Why don't you actually watch them and see what happens to your body when you hurdle over concrete?

Nah, sounds like too much work just to learn how do something. Parkour sounds interesting, but I think I'll stick to skateboarding and weightlifting for now.

Stupid people doing stupid things.
That's not what parkour's about. It's about slow progression and knowing your limits. If I have doubt that I can do something and there's considerable about of danger then fuck it, I won't do it.
Like I said, training for 2 years. No major injuries (couple of pulled muscles here and there, and the occasional twisted ankle due to laziness).

you'll see me runnin' through that open dooooor!

>It's about slow progression and knowing your limits.

That self improvement sports rhetoric can be applied to just about any activity.

Jumping across buildings, putting yourself in harms way and trespassing is not a sport, it's a
recipe for disaster.

What exactly are the rules of parkour? Does it have a grading system like acrobatics or dance? Are there professional or freestyle circuits like skateboarding or BMX? Are there parkour studios, arenas, anywhere other then your local buisness district?

Too me it sounds like a bunch of mooks thinking they are indestructible superheros setting themselves up for paralysis.

You people are worse than B.A.S.E. jumpers.

Very few of us 'jump across buildings'.
Trespassing isn't encouraged or condoned within the community.

baaaw more you cunt, had an old person tripped outside your fathers business and sued you you would be hating on them. Blaming parkour for your fathers failed business is like blaming rally driving for drunken drivers.
