Not exactly sure where to put this, but I guess this is a good enough place.

I need to learn a British accent. I am American and thus can already do a horrible parody of one, but I need to sound as close to legit as possible. Can anyone suggest how I would go about this? I have about three months to learn.

What type of British accent?

Just Urban/Common. Not Queens british. I guess about what someone in London would speak.

you realize three whole different fucking countries are classified as british right

United Kingdom>Britain > England, Scotland, Wales and... Cornwalls?
Northern Ireland

Yes. Like I said it dosent REALLY matter. Just common english. I don't need Received Pronunciation, or some obscure Village dialect.

This helped me when I was learning. It's a fair enough place to start.

Watch a LOT of British TV. Listen to British podcasts. Immerse yourself in the accent. It should be the only one you hear.

Watch Only fools and horses, smoke cigars, move to a shitty estate, sell knock-off's and pretend you are in the 80's. That should work.

this.

coming from a stage actor(inb4 faggot) watch loads of british TV, repeat what they say. Don't be embarrassed to sound like a retard, just make sure you're doing it alone at first. Ham it up as much as possible, if you've got the exaggeration down, toning it down will be easy.

Also don't let it bleed over. If you start talking and someone is like "hmm you say you're from london? You don't sound like it mate" you'll be fucked.

um, try to find a vblogger on youtube that talks a lot, find out where they're from and try emulating them exclusively?

Try talken' Sou'Wes'ern love, good an' pro'er.

Seriously though? Search the webz for dialects, listen to audio files, they're all over the place.

Go scouser though and I might have the urge to kill you.
