I think you started out well. It's also very admirable that you are taking the initiative to do this. Don't loose motivation.
For food, eat natural. Salad (no dressing), fruit, fish, whole grains, and MEAT. Don't eat as many carbs before you go to sleep. Try to shoot for 150 carbs a day. 75-150 g of protein. 1500 calories (or under). Low salt. Low cholesterol. Potassium is a must. (Bananas or supplements.) Try to eat well rounded.
For a workout. Try to jog for thirty minutes to an hour. Try to do around 100 sit ups and push ups a day. Gradually do more reps and jog longer if you feel comfortable with it. If you have weights, lift 'em. Do some squatz (of course, eh?). I imagine you don't have machines or weights. No gym membership. If you get one, that's a plus. Always mix cardio and weights though, that's important. If it take a while to loose some weight, don't get discouraged. :]
