One of my good friends has the same problem on the other end of the scale. 5' 8" and...I don't know, just a featherweight.
Everything he gained, he gained from putting in hours at the gym and going for a couple of months not going to bars, eating out and spending on games and gadgets. The money he saved up he spent on booking one of the gym's in-house trainer twice a week for 3 months.
Save the money on the shakes and snake oil. A hired trainer - a good one anyway - will have heard the same request from other guys who wanted to bulk up and knows the drill and the appropriate exercises. Everything he teaches you, you can remember for the future plus he provides encouragement and morale-boosting, he can even recommend a diet (which he should anyway, if he's good).
tl;dr drop the protein shakes, hit the gym, consider a trainer.
