So I've been thinking of joining the army for a while now. I have been going to the gym for about 4 months going on 5 months on the 29th of this month. I'm currently 240 pounds at 6'1. I was 300 pounds when I started. Would I be ok if I join now or should I wait until I'm at 200? Also, I have no driver's license so will they pick me up or what?

I wanted to go to college for building computers, but they wanted me to get English and Math. I failed Algebra 4 times and sucked at English. What do you think?

And they measure at your neck, so work out your neck.

Or you could bet on a weight waiver, which depending on your AFQT score, how nice your MEPS is feeling that day, what MOS you're looknig at, and if you're just plain fat or fat but strong like a line backer, could be easy or hard.

Go ask /k/ if you have more questions. They should know their military stuff more than /fit/ though there's probably a good bit of cross over traffic.

Anyone else have problems getting into the Canadian Forces because of a Peanut Allergy? This was my dream, and basically... it blew up in my face because of this goddamn allergy. There really isn't anything else I want to do with my life that I can think of.

Anyone else in this predicament?

It's fun to bust on the US armed forces, but very few people seem to want to accept the fact that our volunteer military has a much higher rate or high school graduates and degree holders than the general population amd we earm more than our non-veteran counterparts when we join the civilian work force. Oh shit...that doesn't fit your World view does it? The military has even gone as far as to work with kids and schools to raise graduation rates because the pool of acceptable candidates has been shrinking and GED's are apparently not the answer.

Check the 2005 US census numbers instead of spouting off bullshit you perpetuate to keep from crying yourselves to sleep at night.

OP: You're going to have to make weight, tape(% body fat), but I do not believe a license is necessary for enlistment. The license thing might have changed though. I was active duty between 1996-2000, so there is no telling what has changed.

Damn. I really like people from the military in general. Your post gave off the sort of military vibe. I don't know how to describe it.

You have to take the ASVAB which has algebra. If you don't get above a certain score you won't be allowed into some MOS's. It's rather hard nowadays to get the MOS you want, atleast for the Corps, but every other branch usually has it easier. Regardless, recruiters can't guarantee half the shit they say. How do you fail algebra 4 times? If you really don't care and just exude that attitude of failure then you will have a horrible time in the military. Even with war time standards and even in the army, you're expected to do what you have to do to get the job done. If you're looking for direction it's not the worst thing you can choose but it's a much better suit for someone who wants it. I'd say say go do some fucking temp work, continue losing weight and focus on maxing your PFT score, and see if you still want it in six months.
