I want someone to explain how High-intensity-interval-training is so much better than a typical cardio workout. I am talking sheer calories burned.

Fact: Running 1 mile with HIIT burns the same amount of energy as walking 1 mile.

First off, walking a mile does not burn the same amount of calories as HIITing a mile. I just finished HIIT an hour ago and at 1 mile, i had over 125 calories burned. And also, after you finish HIIT, it has been said that it speeds up your metabolism and you keep on burning calories for the new hour or so.

No. the same muscles do the exact same amount of work. The same amount of energy is burned.

The benefit of enjoying a higher metabolism through HIIT is intangible. While you're at it, drink a gallon of ice water between each interval. That should burn some more calories.

why do you need an explanation? it's been scientifically tested and proven that people who do HIIT see greater gains than those that run at a constant speed.

Anyway, you're doing it wrong if you're walking. You should be going from medium to max intensity. Not low to max.

in case anyone actually listens to this troll, don't. walk 10 miles a day for a month, I'll run 10 miles a day for a month, we'll see who has burned more calories.

HIIT works because it increases the resting metabolic rate for the next day (That's 24 hours, kids!) due to excess post-exercise oxygen consumption. Walking a mile does not fucking do a thing. You're not even breathing hard after it.

also it improves maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max) more effectively than doing only traditional, long aerobic workouts, so it's good.
