Hopefully, within the next 3-5 years, there will be some major upset that completely destroys "CrossFit Inc." Then Glassman can stop spouting so much bullshit and the cultist newbies can stop fawning over him as their god (even the religious jokes they make on that website are not funny - they appear to be semi-serious). Then the concept of varied, intense training can go back to being something uncool and obscure. Hell, you wouldn't even need to cough up two grand to go to some BS certification ritual and start a "CrossFit" gym without getting hunted down and sued by the entirety of the online CrossFit community. It pisses me off to think how much that cocksucker makes each year. Granted, his shit works, but he really hasn't come up with anything new, or even said anything worthwhile in quite some time.
At the risk of repeating myself, this is all you need to do to be set for life in terms of health and fitness: >Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.
