don't do it, unless you are strong enough to do the workouts as rx'd. even if so, don't blindly follow the mainsite as if it were the gospel. buy practical programming by Rippetoe, LEARN something rather than follow the random madness of crossfit.com - then, you can create your own routine mixing strength with minimal "crossfit style" metcon, and you might see some good results...

this is coming from a high level crossfitter, completely fed up with where CF is going. i could smoke almost every WOD as rx'd, and yes, it works, but no, its not the be all end all. i've strayed from mainsite bullshit to my own programming with much better results, and i will continue to do so. i'm currently training with a high level USAW coach and it reveals that almost everything i "learned" at CF affiliates was either wrong, useless, or a recycling of real coaches like Rippetoe and Burgeneur.

Starting Strength, then Practical Programming by Mark Rippetoe should be your reading. Get strong first, then figure out how excactly you want to "get into fitness".

Isn't Mark Rippetoe part of cross fit now or somthing? I heard he teaches his barbell workouts there or somthing

It is actually a good idea to do stronglifts or starting strength for a couple of months first. When you have a good strength base it's easy to get into CrossFit. That's probably the fastest way to get really fit.

That said, you can just start with CrossFit as well. That's what I did and I have been pleased with the results. I've worked myself up to doing most WOD's as prescribed, but I still sometimes use the BrandX scaled versions.

Anyway, it's tons of fun, I feel great, I look great. Perfect program for me.

That's the current recommendation by many on the Crossfit site, start by getting strong on Rippetoe's Starting Strength 3x5 first for a few months, then jump into their daily workouts on the mainsite. Like a few said here though, I don't like where the site is heading. It's a great concept, randomized GPP, but it seems to be moving away from it's original scope.

I think Crossfit is really good for a person whos job involves having to be in peak physical condition a lot, i.e. soldiers, LEO's, firefighters, etc...basically occupations where you can't afford to be so sore from squats that you can't move.

However, if that's not you, then I think you can get better results from doing weights 3x a week and doing different kinds of cardio 3x a week.
