Hey /fit/,

I just bought a pair of roller blades and tried getting used to the breaks in front of my house. Within 10 minutes I almost broke my knee, right now it feels funny and it's beginning to swell. So I guess I'll have to ditch roller blades as a mode of exercise and go for a bike instead.

Anyone have any good bike brand recommendations? I'm especially big on safety but my price range is in the $100-$200 range. Thanks for the help!

Keep on with the roller blades. You'll get better.

I would, but the instruction manual says the breaks will stop you gradually. I was trying to avoid hitting a parked car going down hill and that's how I fucked up my knee, I'm afraid I'll seriously injure myself just practicing.

I wonder if my weight is an issue too--I'm 200 pounds, so I'm thinking downhill momentum and my fatness don't mix well, rofl.

protip: learn to use one blade as the break, dragging it behind you perpendicular to your direction - much better than using the dumb rubber shits.

Theres your problem.
If you don't know how to stop properly without heel brakes, you have no business going down hill.

learn how to move around on a flat surface before you even "think" about looking at a hill in Rollerblades.

Also swollen knees are something that can come about from poor skate posture or skates with poor ankle support or just not skating properly.

course if you fucked up your knees you fucked em up.
Go see a doctor and if he clears you, LEARN HOW TO SKATE first.

It took me about 3 weeks to just learn how to move forwards and stop.

craigslist or ebay someone selling their old bike. you can usually find some nice racing bikes since people keep them in great shape and would only be parting with it because they got an upgrade.
