First of all, my condolences about the death in your family; I'm sorry for your loss.
At 250lbs, I wouldn't recommend jogging or running, as it would likely be harmful to your knees. I would either ride a bike or swim (low or no impact activities). Once you get down closer to a healthy body-weight, then you might consider running.
Of course, eating healthy is important as well.
