Sup, /fit/.

So I've got the opportunity to join a local gym for only $14 a month. No contracts, no entrance fees. It's fully equipped with cardio and weight machines. Is this a good deal y/n?

And if I do join.. I want to know which is an overall better cardio machine; treadmill or elliptical? I'm a fat chick so keep that in mind.

Pic highly related.

>treadmill or elliptical?
Depends on if you're fat or not.
>I'm a fat chick
Elliptical
>> Anonymous
yes.

if you're fat you shouldn't be running, period. you have to be fit to run, you don't run to get fit. this is speaking as a fit man who at 24 years old aquired many injuries by running after not have done so for a number of years (my fitness was through weights, martial arts).

so running is something to be gently eased into. very gentlely.

weightlifting will also help you. if you want to see effects though, lift like a guy. no, you won't end up looking like a guy. 30 reps with a pink dumbbell is bullshit.

lot's of good info out there. places to start are tnation and bodybuilding.com

Fuck the cardio.

Eat better, train hard and the weight will come off, specifically, fat weight, instead of being a smaller you, you'll be a better shaped and smaller you.
>> Miss/fit/ !CX5ZjxjyRA
I wasn't planning on running on the treadmill. Just power walking. But yeah, I assumed the elliptical would be easier on a fatties knees.

I already do cardio/circuit routines so I know I have to do both. I've been doing squats/lunges, push/situps, and a lot of free weight exercises so far. Does that sound good?

Horrible advice. I'm not a total novice.

you're the same retard telling>>43373not to run too aren't you? fucking idiot.

>>43376
yeah, squat as heavy as you can safely. squats are the fucking king.

make no mistake, intensity in weight training will help you cut bf more than cardio. but certainly, do both. discretion helps, as does knowledge. read.

I'm gonna say join, but watch out for the high pressure up-selling by the personal trainers. Those motherfuckers are the most desperate salesmen you will ever meet.

Work that elliptical good. Don't buy into that bullshit pressure to use bunny weights, either; if you get stronger move up in weight.

Good luck, enjoy your new gym.

Thanks a lot, anon. :) I am definitely staying away from personal trainers.

lift hard and eat less carbs
>> RSI guy !HjbWRiSTJ.
be careful the fine print doesn't say price quadruples up to normal amounts in month 3, regardless of the non contract. they can advertise "months" plural in huge ass ads and be technically correct.
>> Anonymous
seems a good price. hell, i'm paying 36 euro a month and it's a good deal for me.

go easy at first and persevere. fat chicks who work out usually end up better shaped than the ones who have been slim all their life.

put in some will and a strong character and i'd be hitting on you, for sure.

Hey, we're not all bad. I know some of the other guys are definitely bad, but not me baby. I would never try to upsell you. I'm just trying to give you the body you want. I don't have all the answers, just the answers to the question of "How do I look good on the beach this year?" Im just saying, you can come in here without a plan and walk around without a clue, or you can come in and get into the mindset, the mindset is key, and just shred fat. Don't let those others fool you though, haha, I know what you mean you don't trust them. But you can trust me, I'm here for you. Now, I dont normally do this but I'm willing to cut the rate, and sign you up for just $55 an hour. Let's do this, right? Here, come with me to my office.

Yeah haha the first question I'm asking is "This $14 a month is every month for the duration of my time here, no matter how long, correct?".

>>43778
Thanks. It's probably because fat chicks who slim down worked so hard to do it. Naturally skinny chicks don't always appreciate their bodies and don't exercise/eat right.

please define "lift like a guy"
>> Anonymous
>>43872
I don't know what that particular person was talking about, but I see a lot of girls/women doing a bazillion reps with the 2kg dumbells. I think what he means is low-medium reps at the maximum weight you can take.
>> Miss/fit/ !CX5ZjxjyRA
>>43878

Lift to failure ftw.
>> Anonymous
>>43885
Lift to failure is not something you should do everyday. Nor is it something you can safely do alone.

10-12 reps, 3 sets. Should be challenging. When you can pump out 3x10, go up in weight 5-10lbs.
>> Anonymous
>>43872
Well, for the most part, women can't bulk up naturally like men do if they start lifting more weights. But typically for toning, you would lift slightly less than what you're used to and do a lot more reps.
>> Anonymous
BULKING - High weight, low reps.
TONING / CUTTING - Low weight, high reps

The bitch of it is you have to focus on strength training before you can bulk correctly. You won't get anywhere squatting 110 lbs. Try Bill Starr's 5x5, it's done wonders for me.
>> skinnyjoe !Prh3hfIJb6
>>43962

BULKING - Mass oriented rep ranges (3-12) with accompanied with a caloric surplus.

Cutting - Mass oriented rep ranges with a caloric deficit.

There is no reason to switch to high reps when cutting.

Touché
>> skinnyjoe !Prh3hfIJb6
>>43368

This guy knows what he's talking about

I have no idea why a girl who DOESN'T want to bulk up would lift in the hypertrophy rep ranges (8-12). Lift hard, and lift with lower reps (4-7). Squats, deadlift, presses, and rows. Those with some cardio and a good diet will get you results faster than anything else.

Thanks man,

also I just noticed I'm posting (and bumping) entirely too much in this thread. Sorry folks.

Holy shit I pay $70/mo for my gym.
>> Anonymous
>>43365

huh.. i recognize that pic from doing research for low priced gyms. That's fitness 19. No frills, just weights and machines, but they keep it clean and in good order.

Payin $9/month w/ $99 initiation fee (they have good specials around thanksgiving/new years). It even says in the contract that the price will never change.

good choice.
>> Miss/fit/ !CX5ZjxjyRA
>>44211

Thanks. It says no contracts on the flier so I dunno if it'll be different or not. I'm gonna stop by Saturday and get it all sorted out.
>> Anonymous
>>44216

btw, i think they're franchised so your experience may vary with whoever's running your location.
>> Miss/fit/ !CX5ZjxjyRA
>>44218

Yeah, like I said I'm definitely going to check it out and get everything sorted first. They were nice enough to make this special corporate offer to my company's employees and family members so they're alright by me so far.
