okay..ill say what i always say.

for the average joe who is trying to just stay strong and workout 2-3 times a week, its alrtie. don't expect any amazing results. you simply will not see them,. if you just want a workout station in your basement and you just want to move some sort of resistence, then go ahead and do it. but you're not going to get very strong or gain alot of muscle doing it.

>>409737
i didnt pay for it

>>410216
did you use one? if so what were you doing?

i dont do the wimpy 20 minute 3 days a week shit, i use it 5-6 times a week an hour and a half each time.

Paying for a gym membership would be a much much better option then paying for these overpriced pieces of shit

if you can afford some dumbbells buy a set and replace some of the exercises you do with the dumbbells.
>> Anonymous
>>410280
okay, but are you lifting properly? Cycling through exercises for an hour and a half 5 days a week doens't mean you're getting a good workout.

when i used my friends bowflex (when i stayed with him during the summer) i did a 3 days split, focusing on different body parts each day. The only reason it is better than calisthenics is that it has more variety. But overal, i'd rather stick to calisthenics for strength training.

If i were you, buy it and do a 3 day split, stay fit and kinda strong but don't buy it if you're trying to intensley lift weights, whcih it seems that you are trying to do.

also, even if you were doing free weights, 1.5 hours every day for five days is not good. You're not lifting properly.

>>410288
i do chest/triceps one day
legs the next
back/biceps next
legs
>> Anonymous
>>410695
how the hell are you doing 1.5 hour workouts? Do you just cycle through the same exercises over and over again until the timer goes off?
>> Anonymous
>>410752
what? i dont have a timer, hour and a half is just the average time.
>> Anonymous
>>410757
also there 30+ exercises you can do on a bowflex, so its not like you could cycl through all of them in an hour and a half
>> Anonymous
>>410757

dude i can't imagine yuou're working out hard enough. Very few people can workout for 1.5 hours intensley enough. Maybe you're taking breaks that are too long between exercises or are doing too many reps/sets.

can I see your routine? I wanna try and help and see if i can make any improvements.
>> Anonymous
i have a bowflex, and i enjoy it. its good for pully exercises (back, etc.), but i dont base my workouts around it. if you're going to invest in a bowflex, invest in a treadmill/bike, and a weight set + bench at the minimum.
>> Anonymous
>>410773
what? you havent heard of anyone working out for an hour and a half?

i take 1-2 minute between reps and 2-3 minutes between exercises
>> Anonymous
>>410793
the thing is i dont have anyone to spot me if i get a weight set.
>> Anonymous
>>410933
you're working out too much then. take it easy. use haevier weights and work out less. if you want long workouts then get on the treadmill.
>> Anonymous
Different poster: when I do free weights at the gym, it takes me about an hour to an hour and a half depending on traffic/what day (leg day takes longer than shoulders, for example). Hour to an hour and a half isn't unreasonable
>> Anonymous
>>410991
how many workouts should i do in a session?

also how is it that freeweights are better than a bowflex?
>> Anonymous
>>411012
that's if you factor in things like waiting for open spots. However, if you have no waiting time then you're taking too long. It's not good to do tons of exercises and it's not good to rest 3 minutes between each one unless you're really exerting yourself.

a good workout should last 45 minutes to 1 hour at most.
>> Anonymous
>>411590
how many exercises do you usually do in each session?

I usually do 4, including a squat or deadlift. Then a couple of other big compound moves (like bench, overhead press, etc) and maybe an isolation exercise or two for pure aesthetics. Then i'm fucking taxed.

thats it? i usually do 7-8

you can get a good enough workout doing 3-5 exercises. it's a myth that you need to work out for 1.5 hours to get results. i got results working out 45 minutes at most.

my routine was this:

monday: bench, incline, overhead press

wed: squat, lunges, clean, deadlift

friday: pullups, roman chair sit ups, reverse pushups, good mornings.

that's it. 6 reps for the bigger lfits, 12 for others. 3 sets. i got size, strength, and all the other goodies. so quit wasting your time working out for 1.5 hours you fucking wasteful faggots.

You will see results doing any kind of lifting that is challenging. Still a shit machine though.

i dont feel like i did a good workout if i do 4 exercizes

my routine
day 1- bench-fly-incline-decline and 3 tricep exercize plus a warmup

day 2- legs

day 3- shouler raises-shouler shrugs-shoulder presses-reverseflys-seated lat pulldowns-bicep curls

The main thing wrong with the bowflex is that the weight is not static. When the bows are resting, it takes little effort to move them, then as you get to the peak of your lift there is more resistance. Then as you return to the neutral position there is progressively less resistance. With actual weights, the weight is the same at every point in the exercise. Also with machines you tend not to work auxiliary muscles in exercises as much, but with free weights other muscles work to stabilize the weights.
>> Anonymous
>>413157
if the bows are resting youre not doing the exercise right. freeweight bars give each arm less movement becuase the movements are more stabilized.

The best home gym would be a barbell, a bench, and a bunch of weight plates.

where you could do what? 3-5 exercises with it.

>>414177
you can do dozens of exercises with a barbell, but the main exercises you will do will be major compound lifts. Doing heavy squats, deadlifts, presses, rows, etc will be more beneficial than 15 different machine exercises.

people who use machines are fucking weaker. plain and simple.

they max out their bowflex that says 400lbs or whatever shit, then the day they get under a free barbell fucking wonder why 135lbs is so hard to move.

because you were basically using a fisher price toy.

sheep faggots who believe anything on tv

I found that thing great to start out on but the moment you start using freeweights your stabilizer muscles will punish you.

of course its gonna be different jackass, theyre not used to it, it doesnt mean anything in terms of strength/weakness.

i don't see anywhere on the bowflex that works your lower back

thus, you won't be able to squat for shit because your back won't be able to handle it
