Hey /fit/, I'm gonna risk it all but I could really care less since I really want to lose this weight. Let me start off to tell you I'm underage b&, and if you really want to know my age I'm 14 going on 15. Ok I've been doing HIIT for a month now and lost around 13 LBs (200-187). I'm guessing somewhere in that lost weight was just water weight so im not sure how accurate that is. I'm also 5'7 FYI and as you can tell im a friggin obese fatty, but i hope to change it. Well what i wanted to ask is how can I continue doing HIIT when I got school going on since the prime time is usually Morning - Afternoon (When i got HS) so what can I do. And also how old do i have to be to consider lifting?

Join the cross country team. Seriously.

First off, we don't care if you're "going on 15". Of course you are if you're 14.

Second, don't go on /b/. Here, we don't care if you're an underage b&. It's not 18+.

Third, join a sport. Find a sport that you like. It'll help lose weight.

Don't bother lifting if you're looking to lose weight. Run 4-5 miles a day. At first you'll need to walk a bit, but you'll get used to it.

At your weight, you're probably eating more than you need to. Try to hit 400 calories a meal, and a 200 calorie snack at night if you need to.

i agree, join x-country. i'm 22 and i wish i had done so in highschool. i imagine it would have changed my body even now.

you should lift as it will make your body keep the muscle mass and only lose fat

Well, I've consider joining cross country but Im scared I wouldn't be able to keep up if they're doing a 2-3m Run. And would tennis suffice for Cross country ?

this is the 22 year old who posted above

NO ONE can keep up with x country when they first join. the whole point is to get in shape, who gives a shit about the rest of the kids?

don't worry about being embarrassed either, you aren't going to see these kids once you graduate. highschool is nothing.

don't be a pussy. trust me. join track, keep doing it (because you'll definitely want to quit for the first couple of weeks) but you will be happy you did.

2-3 miles is fucking nothing. You will blend into that routine easily. Do not fear it just because the mile run sucked in elementary school

I'm 24 and an avid runner now too, and I wish I had been doing it since then. Don't miss the chance, hit that shit running!

Ok thanks, for the motivation and encouragment. And one more question, what should I do on the days I'm not doing HIIT?

Yet you can apparantly do HIIT. HIIT done PROPERLY is practically an impossibility for someone who is not already in good physical shape. You will read a variety of bollocks of those claiming to do HIIT for 15 minutes, this is seriously laughable. HIIT on machines and HIIT outdoors are two entirely different things, the former should be thrown out the window since any man and his dog can do it.

If you claim to do HIIT properly outdoors then so be it, but from everything i read here i get the impression the majority are not and attribute their weight loss to HIIT rather than the simple fact that their diet did most of the work, thus spreading the BS that HIIT is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Losing weight is around 70% diet, 30% exercise. Add in weights before steady state cardio, it wont build muscle but it will help empty glycogen stores in your body allowing you to start burning fat quicker.

Thanks and at most I can do a max of 6-7 minutes of HIIT 30 Seconds Brisk Walk 30 Seconds of sprinting but I struggle towards the last minute or two. So when should I consider doing weights?

Err lemme rephrase that, what type of weight training should I be doing? Other then SQUATZZ cause i have no experience doing that or knowing how to do that.

This was me, cookies or something must have cleared my name out. Personally i do weights on alternating days i.e.

A) 45-60 mins cardio
B) 45 mins weights - 25 mins cardio

Rine and repeat.

Eventually i fucked my knees up this month from what i can guess is overtraining and the tendons in my knee couldn't repair fast enough, so i'm pretty much fucked this month. Anyway my point is i do weights prior to cardio to boost fat loss during cardio because the lifting will burn through glycogen, your primary source of energy. When it is depleted your body will then start using a less efficient energy source, fat, which normally occurs around 20 minutes into cardio (depends on intensity). Lets say for ease, it starts burning fat at around 13 minutes in due to weight lifting. You see where im going with this.

Outside burning glycogen, lifting will boost your metabolism, burn calories (not as much as cardio in general) and overall i just find it enjoyable. You won't gain alot of muscle while cutting, after a few months i can see my triceps & biceps seem bigger in terms of muscle rather than fat and i have gotten stronger. Right now i'm just using free weights but will be adding in a pullup bar & barbell once my knees are back to strength again.

tl;dr - Weights motherfucker, do them.

What does your weight training consist of?

Squats ARE weight training. Learn to do them, they are essential.

and as far as when, lift weights before you run--empties glycogen out of your body so when you run you burn only fat and not glycogen instead
