so, after 4 months of training i competed for the first time in submission wrestling. got my ass beat.
5 months later, i found the video posted by my opponent on youtube. fuck thats good motivation.

i competed in -99 kgs, and felt like i had to drop fat weight and gain some more muscle. i'm now at 94 kgs.

now, i know nothing about strength training, and my gym only has access to free weights. i want to get more explosive, improve my grip strength and get a stronger neck. any good alround excersices you'd like to share? thanks.

if that was the case I wouldn't have bothered saying it was on youtube, and spared myself comments of your kind.

right now, i just train mma as often as i can and fuck around with as heavy weights as i can with short reps. i do a lot of shrugs, but as i said, i really don't know this stuff.

i got choked out in the last 20 secs of the fight.

My short stint as a strength athlete to SW/MMA showed that your strength training should be extremely simple, otherwise you'll end up not achieving much.

In a nut shell I felt like I got the most bang for the buck if I just trained power snatch/clean, low-bar backsquat, military press. If you feel like adding something it would only be chins or pull ups.

Throwing in more stuff is just out from your recovery ability which ended up being a very big part of the weekly schedule.

After that I've been thinking maybe crossfit style training would be better and just forget increasing your maximal strength and concentrate in heavy GPP, because to gain significant amounts of strength requires full time training just for that and heavy wrasslin' especially was way too taxing for that. So maybe you should check out crossfit.com.

towel pullups would be good for developing lat and grip strength.
