Hi /fit/,

Fatty here (~5'10'' 354lbs) and during the summer I've been strength training with my brother. In two days I am going back to college and I will lack a spotter there so I plan to focus a bit more on cardio. After lurking for awhile I've noticed that 6 small meals a day are recommended, but due to me being at college eating that much will be quite difficult unless it is a) portable (i.e. in my backpack) b) cheap (college is fucking expensive) I'm really not sure what kind of foods I could tote around with me all day that I would be able to get for a decent price. I have a canister of BODY FORTRESS SUPER ADVANCED WHEY PROTEIN, would this be acceptable as a meal? I would easily be able to bring a bottle of water and a scoop or two of this stuff in a baggie with me. Fairly cheap too, ~$17 for 28 scoops.

Health info for 2 scoops;
210 calories
3.5g of fat
95 mg of cholesterol
4g carbs
3g sugars
52g protein
245 mg calcium
168 mg phosphorus
29 mg magnesium
160 mg sodium

Theres a lot of things you can do on the cheap for college. First get a sams club membership or costco. buy chicken in bulk. Buy whey in bulk, you can find it online for pretty cheap. carry a shaker, and tupperware with chicken and brown rice. or as someone else suggested, canned tuna. Its not hard to eat clean in college, it just takes a little work man. stick with it and results will come

Don't eat instant or rolled. That shit's bland and nutritionally empty compared to steel cut.

I was considering this

How much should I put into the oatmeal?

Only real supermarket around here is a walmart, also we have little tiny fridges in the dorms so it looks like it's gonna be tuna for me. Next year my friends and I are going to rent out a house, so I'll definitely keep your suggestion in mind about trying to buy chicken in bulk.

I have the 'old fashioned' quaker oats, not instant.

Protein is good if you're trying to lose weight.

If you'd actually read I was asking if the protein shake would be a decent choice for replacing a meal.

Also, my maxes for the moment.

Bench - 230 x 8
Deads - 320 x 12 without grips, and it was my grip that failed me, so I'm not sure how much higher I can go
SQUATZ - 250 x 12 Scared to go too high on this without a belt
Legpress 890 x 12 I know leg press doesn't really mean shit, but it should be at least an indication of how much I could be squatting.

I'm just trying to get suggestions on what would be healthy for me to eat throughout the day since I've seen it recommended. I'm not obsessing over food I'm just trying to get an idea of what would be decently priced and wouldn't kill me.

Hey,

Have fun with this - it's easy to lose weight when you're very heavy! When I turned 18, I saw the scale hit 300lbs. Within a year I had dropped to 220, by 20 I was 200 - now at 21, I'm 190 and just about to start P90X.

The key, for me, was not eating many meals a day (though sometimes I did), but more so being selective in what I ate, when I did. My issue was overeating poor things - now, I eat smaller portions and choose chicken over beef, peas over potatoes, etc...

If you want to base your ~2000 calorie diet around six meals, realize all of them have to be a bit smaller. The idea is not "eat regular meals, plus snacks". It's OK, especially at your weight, to just reduce your caloric intake at regular meal intervals.

That said, have a cup of yogurt for "snack"; maybe mix some with your oatmeal. 1/2 a granola bar, an apple (or other piece of fruit), a glass of milk, etc...these work well. You don't want "6 meals a day", but three small "meals" with two or three "snacks" interspersed.

Something that will really help you is to work out on an empty stomach, and making sure you quit eating at least three hours before you go to sleep. Also, drink tons of water.

Good luck on your adventure. It's very rewarding to feel your body getting healthier.

Best,
blah

Well, I wouldn't be able to eat regularly this semester anyway, seeing as on MW I have class from 10-2 so I was looking for something that I could just eat while I was going to class. I'm already almost completely off of any sugary drinks (every now and then I'll have a diet cream soda, just can't stop craving the fucking things).

Thanks for the advice and motivation, I have already started to notice that my body shape is getting more lean since I started to work out and it's a great motivation to be able to actually look in the mirror and see that what you're doing is actually having an effect.
