wondering what /fit/'s opinion is on the use of DDR as an exercise plan with the intent of weight loss and fitness maintenance. i know that they have a workout version on some of them and all, but has anyone actually had any success with it..?

i tried it for a while and it increased my stamina for a bit but i made very little headway on weight loss. any techniques specifically for weight loss is also appreciated.

i eat very well and do jog regularly but im looking for something a bit more entertaining.

Better than nothing, but better things out there to do.

HOW TO PLAY DDR FOR WEIGHT LOSS:

1) Acquire DDR + DDR Dance Mat
2) Grasp firmly
3) Throw into garbage. Destroy resulting bag.
4) Go outside and fucking jog or cycle you useless nigger.

I used to know a guy who weighed 250lbs and played DDR. He was fat, but man, he'd rip it up. I found out later he was also part of a theater dance group. He lost a little weight from quarter-pumping at the arcade (which is more than most could say) but despite being there daily and being deceptively agile he still looked fat.
DDR =/= good exercise, but it's better than nothing, fatty.

Honestly, this isn't worth raging about.

DDR, when played on Heavy or even Standard for a while, is a decent cardiovascular workout. Anything less is just dicking around.

Running or HIIT or anything else is better however.

DDR is almost no good for building muscle.

So, do it if you like it, but know that you'll need more to do anything other than lose some fat.

DDR does work for weightloss. One of my friends lost like 25 lbs about 2 summers ago from just doing DDR daily. Bad news is, he does like every song of heavy and does this upwards of 2-3 hours at a time. Basically, unless you're a mega asian, you're probably not gonna lose much weight doing this. It is, however, a fun game and better than nothing.
