high protein, good starchy carbs, small amount of fat (amino acids in fat are required for muscle growth). Big meaty dish with a good amount of veg should be good.

PROTIP:
You don't need much extra protein than the recommended daily allowance if you purposefully work out and exercise intensely.

Just a few extra grams.

Stop reading body building magazines and pick up a nutrition textbook or medical journal.

NOTE: RDA should be calculated by amount of calories your body burns through in a day. Phelps eats an entire pizza at dinner because he burns so many more calories during one day that we do.

Depends on what kind of bread. I'm not a fan of wheat bread, but I eat it because white bread is just so damn bad for you. It's good the because it's high in fiber and iron, maybe other vitamins and minerals if it's fortified. Vegetables are also high in fiber, vitamins, and all sorts of other goodies. However, they're lower in calories which is a pain when you're trying to build.

If you don't like wheat bread try sweet harvest wheat, I think by Schwebel's. It's pretty tasty.

You're correct. But at the same time if you're young and healthy the extra protein won't hurt your kidneys. So I still try my best to get a gram of protein per lb on days I lift.
