Hey /fit/,

So I have horrible pain on the outsides of my lower leg (Extensor digitorum longus) whenever I run for more than 45 minutes. Any recommendations for stretches and whatnot to avoid crippling pain?

Stop running for more than 45 minutes?

I'm not too sure if this stretch will help. But I generally do it every time I run. With one foot, put your toes up above the corner where the wall and floor meet. Have your heel in contact with the floor. From the side view, there will be a space in the shape of a triangle. Push your body weight towards the wall. Looking at the image, it might target the tibialis anterior more though.

Lucky you. I get crippling shin pain when I run for far less than 45 minutes, and no amount of stretching prevents it.

Do you have shin splints? Only time will heal it as it's a bone injury. You have to keep off of it for 6 months even with minimal walking. The above stretching should help if it's the muscle itself.

Yeah, that sounds like shin splints to me.

You need more than fitness nerds on 4chan to heal that.

I thought it might be that. Especially when the pain wouldn't go away for weeks after a run. That's why I eventually stopped running.

Hooray for low impact cardio.
