This is going to sound extremly trollish but IT IS NOT.

So /fit/, I need some help. I'm 5'8", 158 pounds. I've been going to the gym for 6 weeks now. I'm not that "fat" you just cant see my abs, but I have decent arms, and pretty good legs. I dont have any stretch marks,(only like 2 on my legs) My guess is, how long will it take to be able to see my abs, if I go to the gym 6-7 times a week, and run 3-3.5 miles 5 times a week. I wish I had a picture of myself, but I dont, so maybe post barly fat people, and I can tell you if I look like any of them.

Noone thinks you're a troll, just an idiot. Who cares how long it takes? Starting right now will have the best results.

same height. I weight about 4 pounds more. Can't see my abs, but I have really good arms, chest, back and ok runner legs.

My plan:
HIIT - 5 days a week. Step up the protein (100% whey, no blends/meal replacements). Lower carbs slightly (no big pasta dinners).

Keeping everything else the same.

If that fails, I'm going to try all of the above with adding hydroxycut (yeah, I'm getting desparate too).

Ya, I really changed my diet, and I'm taking Whey protien after my workout. I try to watch my carbs alot and I stoped "snacking" on junk while sitting at home. I try to do hit, but sometime I just run 3 miles. I can HIIT for about 10 mins, but it sucks, cause the tredmil only goes to 10.5 miles/hour I think.

That's all you really need.

Do 6 for 1 minute, 8-10 (based on your fitness) for 2 minutes, and keep switching for 15 - 20 minutes.

You'll hit in at around 2.7 miles and be really fucking exhausted.

Try longer intervals than 30 seconds. It takes the damn machine like 15 seconds to accelerate as it is.

So n oe can give me an estimate of how long to se nice results?(i go ever 6-7days, and I eat well)

Decent arms? Good legs? You've got to be fucking kidding me. I've got a much more muscular form compared to you but I still think I'm a weak flabby failure of shit. Your level of confidence is not healthy.

don't listen to this guy, he likely has the age old syndrome of bodybuilders... no amount of muscle mass is ever good enough..

you look in general OK, 4-5 days per wek is healthier than 6-7 (gives DOMS a little time to go away before next monday)

I'd guess a month if you have a metabolism similar to mine

You need to bulk first (gain muscle), then cut (lose fat). You should not attempt to do both at once, any person who says that is a liar or an idiot.

A bulk period will gain you about 4-5 kg of muscle in 2 months if you do it properly. A cut period will take away approximately 4-5 kg of fat in the same time.

Looking at your pic, you should definitely gain something like 10kg of muscle, and lose at least 10kg of fat. That means, imo, 8 months, before you have any chance of seeing your abs.

But you will see PLENTY of progress before then. Every kg of fat lost and muscle gained is noticeable, so every two weeks you will see something slightly different in the mirror.

TL;DR: If you just cut fat through regular exercise, you will just end up looking scrawny and weak. :)

Make sure that you use a good brand of 100% Whey, not the shitty Walmart brand which only has about a 40% protein absorption rate. Make sure you eat adequately also, if you eat too little and workout a shitload you will burn muscle and gain fat, which sucks dick trust me.
As far as supplement are concerned, I got a RMR test and my metabolism sucks pretty bad so I take digestive enzymes as well as centrum, and flax seed oil pills. For HIIT I can do 3 miles in roughly 20 minutes on treadmill, but I encourage outside running because you body is constantly changing with elevation. Even if you have those "mountain" or "Beach course" modes on the treadmill they are not as good.

Hmm, let me correct myself. You wanted to see your abs, my 8 months recipe above is for becoming RIPPED and getting a sixpack.

If you just want to look noticeably more fit, 2 months of either bulking and cutting will make a definite difference. Also, with your body, I would start with bulking.

You really need more muscles to be able to cut fat more effectively.

But don't try to lose more than 1-1.5 pound of fat each week, or you will end up losing muscle as well. Any "diet" that tells you you can lose more than 1-2 pounds a week will end up eating up muscles and dehydrating you. Don't do it.

sage all over this thread.

If you guys had seen the pic of OP before he deleted it, you would know straight away there's no easy chance in hell to define his abs and make it visible without losing the whole load of lard all over his body. OP's self-esteem is misplaced big time.
