Ahh /fit/... Running today sucked. I ran the same amount, but it felt so much longer and tiring. About two days ago, I was able to run the trail more, since I believe my legs are getting used to running more, but today wasn't that good. I dunno if it was because I ate lunch earlier, since the two days before a weekend and I ate lunch about an hour and a half before, or because the weather was a bit sunnier. Any recommendations on what to do? I felt like dying towards the end, and felt like never running again in my life while showering. Oh! I also wanted to ask why it hurts sometimes on the inner bottom right part of my ribs when I run.

Set the end results in mind. You'll be fit again in a while if you keep at it...

Here are some things I do to motivate myself when I run:

Listen to awesome music
Track my run (I use Nike+iPod)
Change my route when it starts to get boring
Keep a goal, and challenge myself to surpass it

The Nike+iPod is great, when I feel like I'm totally dead there is a "power song" option to interrupt your current song and play one you picked out that is totally-mind-blowing-awesome-hardcore-motivation

I do listen to music and track my running (the trail has marks for every .25 miles), but I still get tired as fuck and lose interest. It just feels so long. I'm also slow, since this is pretty much the first time I've ran in my life, but still.

From what I gather, the rib pain thing is pretty common. I get it on my right side, one of my friends on his left. I heard all sorts of theories about the cause - from dehydration (cramping) to something about stress on ligaments connecting to your liver (?) - and I honestly can't say for sure what causes it.

When I start feeling it, I have to control my breathing - deliberately breathing in and out deeply. After a few breaths like that the pain usually goes away, although I may have to repeat that process a couple times during a run.
