hi, /fit/.

I'm 29 years old. My life's been full of dorkitude and pain (not so much of the former recently, but plenty way back when iamsureyoucanrelate). Anyway, it's all been worth it, 'cause it led me to POWER CLEANS!!!!!!

What do you think about this exercise, /fit/? It is not exactly squatz, but still kind of the greatest too.

fuck yes powercleans are great, mixed with all those other great lifts you're on your way. just be careful with them.

i fucking love POWER CLEANS even more than SQUATZ

I've been wanting to do power cleans pretty bad, should I just use the regular Olympic bar to get the technique down? How'd you guys get your form down? It's a pretty intimidating exercise to be honest.

start with doing jump shrugs, basically take the bar from your deadlift position and jump up into the position the middle guy is in, on your tiptoes with your arms straight and shoulders around your ears. once youve mastered this through in the clean which is bring your elbows up to the side as if you were doing upright rows, once the bar is around your nipple pop down under it while bringing your elbows in and palms facing up, like the 3rd dude in ops pic. then stand up straight and then resverse movement

start with ridiculously light weight.
and what the other guy said too. start with bar on your thighs and practice popping the bar up and down.

yeah you can use a regular bar... deadlift to a shrug, hop up, keep the bar going. it is actually really easy... i think the only reason people are scared of them is that the folks who wrote the internet 5x5 guides were like OMGZ ROW INSTEAD.

the people who wrote those guides are, I'm afraid, incorrect.

rows are not an adequate substitute in any way

AND one of the clear purposes of the cleans in rippetoe's plan is to serve as a kind of dynamic effort day for the deadlift....

This is probably one of the greatest exercises you can do.

It gets you strong in all parts of your body, and makes you explosive as fuck.

Just look at olympic lifters. They've tested them on athleticism, and they could beat world class sprinters in a 20m run (they lose over farther distances because they're like 5'4).
