sup /fit/

you'll have to forgive me for not being a routine lurker of this subforum, but i have an issue perhaps some of you could give me some advice on.

around this time last year, i was an extraordinarily unhealthy bastard just making my crossing beyond 300lb (6'3", male, 20yrs) and i've lost 50lbs since then by making some more dramatic changes in dieting and doing some simpler, smaller scale exercises every so often. huzzah!

but now, a different issue has arisen. i'm starting to notice my skin loosening up and what one would *consider* stretch marks at first glance popping up in those areas like underneath my arms and around my belly.

so, /fit/, what could i do to help remedy this little side effect of weight loss?

inb4 fat bastard, go outside, etc.

pic related, though not me

If it's really bad, surgery is your only answer. Sucks, I know. A lot of this has to do with how fast you lose the weight, though: 50lbs in ~52 weeks is a great pace, so you probably still have some skin elasticity. Make sure you get lots of water, plenty of potassium, and keep working out to try to fill all that shit out. Good luck.

loose skin = you need to lose more fat and put on more muscle.

thanks for the advice and encouragement

judging by my body type, the amount of loose skin i'd have if i hit around 200lb would require the muscle mass of a young arnold schwarzennegger to completely fill.

i naturally have a large frame (lol, i know you must hear this alot) and have a large ribcage with broad shoulders to accompany my height.

the best way to describe my situation is.. well, if i laid down on the floor, the outline of my ribcage would really stick up and out there in comparison to what once was a beer belly. if i'm standing, what once was a beer belly just hangs around while my upper chest resembles a decent set of sculpted pectoral muscles. a really odd contrast, eh?

OP delivers

you can clearly see the marks i described in the original post i made on the thread. they're not all that serious right this moment, but i'm just concerned about the situation getting out of hand like one of those mega weight-loss stories where you *do* have to get surgery to get this shit fixed.

oh that's not terribly bad. just keep building muscle, you'll look fine. there are a few creams that you can buy OTC that will diminish the stretch marks; they should work well for you because they look like very fine, shallow stretch marks. trofolastin or trilastin, i believe.

I'm sure you'll be fine, OP.

Don't let this deter you - it's far better to have temporarily loose skin than to be fat.

You don't actually have to fill up that much. You just still have body fat to lose and muscle will help. You won't be gigantic. The loose skin doesn't fill out (that's a myth.)

OP here again, and thanks once more

i'll be looking into these creams you all mentioned

loose skin will tighten up in time. Just exercise and be patient. At age of 20 it should take 2-3 months.
I lost 50KGs (not lbs) and it took my skin a full year to adapt to new body size. Never made it do that again :D

also fat is far less dense then muscle so even if U had the same weight but of pure muscle you'll still have excesive skin problem
