do Olympic athletes take supplements? Anonymous
do Olympic athletes take supplements? (I mean ones sanctioned by the IOC.) Which athletes take which supplements in which quantities? I would like a role model to emulate. I'm currently in the 69 kg weight class for weight lifting, a scrawny newb lifter, and think I bulk up to the next class 75 kg or whatev with just muscles supplementing whey isolate powder or some milk thing. I'd like to not suck at Olympic list such as the clean and jerk, and also deadlifts and front squats which I've never tried before.

5'6 145lbs male just yesterday did clean jerk 4x7 42.5 kg, max deadlift 1x3 130 lbs . Sorry about mixed units that's how they were at the gym.

tl;dr Will supplementing my healthy eating habits help me lift more shit or do lifting longer with ? I think they're good enough so I'm not posting them.

If your eating habits are as good as you think, you shouldn't need supplements.

The thing about supplements is: they're supposed to SUPPLEMENT your diet to give you things you don't get via ordinary means. I know the supplement industry is huge and all but really I don't see a ton of benefit to most pills and potions out there.

I take whey protein (because I'm an ecto and I just have to eat all day and it's convenient), fish oil (because I really am deficient in omega 3) and my prescribed Protonix for hiatial hernia, which is a bit of my stomach being too high in my chest which gives me GERD. And that's it.

I would take one multivitamin but they all just make me ill in the morning.

Your question is very specific and all that jazz. You should be more patient.

No I'm not, i'm a newb. Sorry about that, I'm going to sleep after this. I meant does the IOC treat any over-the-counter supplements as drugs and ban your ass?

I'm sure that some of the stuff you can get at a Vitamin Shoppe can maybe make you test positive. I know that we as student athletes, we can't drink redbulls and shit like that before games because they banned them in the NCAA. But if you are not getting drug tested, don't worry about it.

Taking Muscle Milk could possibly cause an athlete to fail a drug test due to the IGF-1 in it I believe.

Hence, they offer a "Collegiate" version without it.

Exactly. Our school is going through an voluntary drug testing program for our athletes. Its anonymous and we don't get in trouble if we test positive. And I remember something in Muscle Milk came up.

Dear /fit/ I was wondering if the following is a good idea.
I don't wanna get FUCKHUGE so I was thinking I'd simply stop inceasing the weight in my excersizes after I get a nice body and simply do more and more reps. What will happen to my mussles if I for example do curls untill I can manage 40 pounds and then just keep on doing more of them instead of using heavier dumbells?
1. Will my muslces keep growing ever so slightly?
2. Will they actually shrink?
3. No differance size-wise, only more endurance?

I'm hoping for number 3 but since I know nearly nothing about this stuff I'm asking the internet experts of 4chwon.

I think number 3. If you keep using the same weight you will train slow twitch muscle fibers.

Yeah, just eat more. A lot more.

If you can't deadlift more than you're bodyweight, you are in big trouble
