/fit/, is doing cardio first thing in the morning a good idea (before eating breakfast)? The trainer at my local gym was telling me it would help me lose weight faster because running on an empty stomach would force my body to use fat for energy instead of the energy in my stomach from breakfast.

Total bullshit. They guy who did it was a belgian marathoner and he was training 40 times a week and only did it 3 times out of 40 with no substantial gain. The hypothesis stayed but it was never proven.

More important to run for at least 45 minutes so fat burning occurs instead of glycogen consumption yadaa yadaaa.

Try it both ways and find what works best for you. It's really a personal choice.

these two methods both worked for me:
method 1:
wake up
run for 20 minutes
eat breakfast

method 2:
finish school and go to gym (3pm)
lift for 30-45 minutes
drive home (20 min)
do HIIT (20 min)
wait 1 hour
eat dinner
