since bulking and cutting are kind of different, would it be hard to do both?

To bulk, consume more calories than you burn and weight train to build muscle.
To cut, you consume fewer calories than you burn to lose fat, and with weight training you will maintain the muscle you have.
So no, you can't do them at the same time.
