Here's where I'm at, /fit/.
155 lbs, 5'10" (male)
Some fat, but not too much. Working on losing as much as possible and gaining muscle.

Right now I'm restricting calories to about 2000 a day (had 1700 today, might have a protein shake later to bring it to 1900), lifting every other day, various other exercises (running, calisthenics, push ups, sit ups) on off days.

Am I going to see any gains in muscle? I cannot get a consensus on whether I can both build muscle and cut fat.
I take whey and generally pack in 100-130 grams of protein a day.

Look, it's very possible to build muscle and cut fat at the same time, the general method of bulk and cut is for accelerating both at ungodly rates.

that's a yes, you can build muscle and cut fat, then increase calories once you're happy with weight to get just above maintanence.

I am 5'11" male and 155lbs too (I was 168 a few months ago). I have just started weight lifting and I am eating around 2000 calories a day on a carb/fat/protein split of 40%/30%/30%. I don't have much muscle at the moment..I don't really think eating a ton of calories a day is a good idea... I am worried about putting on loads of fat again.
