Cheat days are good for you in multiple ways when used wisely. A special dinner or something every once in a while makes people more likely to stick to their goals, and the caloric intake fluctuations prevent the metabolism from adjusting down.

They're still directly linked to willpower. I've seen some "dedicated" people who ended up giving in to a cheat day, only to remember how much they loved fattening foods and end up spoiling their whole regimen for months. That's where yo-yoing usually comes from.

Yeah, it can be good for your mind to satisfy cravings every month or so, but some people (hell, MOST people) usually end up going totally out of control and forsaking their diet and exercise plans. I'm potentially one of those people, because I know if I had cake or a donut, I'd likely have a second and a third and a fourth.

Then maybe they should treat their cheat day in a more negative way. Cheat days are good PER SE, they're just not devastating blows to your regimene, and may give your body more time to adapt.

We all like to glutton a bit sometimes, make sure that's the cheat day, and if you can skip the cheat day go right ahead, don't feel like you SHOULD have a cheat day. I seem to be rambling on, but I'm trying to say do NOT take a cheat day for granted. The cheat day is your bad day when you mess up, not something routine that you do and then you'll have to ACTUALLY glutton after it.
