cool story bro
This is my first week of really trying to lose weight.

I'm 20 years old, 6' and 232 lbs. This past weekend (Sat. and Sun.) I did a jog+walk combo for 30 minutes each morning, and I'm trying to get up early on weekdays (work days) to do the same every day, even though the main problem is just getting out of bed (5:30am).

I've started drinking Slim-Fast shakes in place of breakfast on weekdays (drink on the way to work) and in place of lunch (on the way to class Mondays through Thursdays) and I'm going to try to replace at least one meal per day with one on the other days of the week. In between meals I have either an apple or a Slim-Fast snack bar. For dinner, which is home cooked by my mom, I simply try to just eat a lot less than I used to.

I am also going to try to stick to doing something like crunches every evening or something like that.

I don't necessarily care about building muscle right now. I just want to lose the fat. And I am very calorie-oriented. I know all of the established math is on a "give or take" basis and I should never take any online calculator to be 100% accurate, but when I have numbers to keep track of, it's easier for me to see and believe in my progress. I guess it's a mental thing.

My goal: get below 200lbs by 2009.

Okay, I just got back from another one of my jog+walks. While sitting here lurking /fit/ and browsing some weightloss sights I suddenly decided, why the fuck not, i'm going to try and fit in more of this in my evenings, not just mornings!

I jogged a lot more this time, with a slightly more even jog/walk ratio. If I keep that up I should be to 50:50 in a week maybe. I also found out when I got home that the route I go is slightly over 1 mile.

In a way, I feel a little motivated the more I do this. And I probably haven't actually lost a single pound yet!

What does /fit/ do to stay motivated? (particularly early on)
