women's push-ups Anonymous
sup /fit/,

Let's talk about the women's push-up. One of my buddies in the military tells me that if you fail at life (like me), then you get sent to remedial PT and they start you with women's push-ups. (cheater push-up, loser push-up etc)

So my questions are:
1. how many reps / how many sets?
2. do you think this is the most effective way to build basic strength? im not trying to get ripped but im tired of not being able to do more than 4-5 real push-ups
3. other than this, are there any other exercises you recommend for building basic strength?
4. pic related. right way or is she DOING IT WRONG?

OP here

The "bye /fit" wasnt meant to be taken literally. thanks for the info. more input from others would be appreciated

78422 is really solid advice.

Some people do crazy hard things with bodyweight exercises and basic playground equipment/bars. So there's plenty of room to progress without a gym if you're so inclined.

But the "most effective way" is probably _Starting Strength_, as mentioned 1000x. Go read FAQ on 7chan/fit/, then come back.

ah...

and i forgot 1 thing... only problem with that set of exercises is that it ignores the hamstrings and only works the calf very slightly (toe ups while holding a big rock works for calf though... bent and straight knee both)

in terms of "at home" hamstring workouts, doing a thing called glute ham raise (I just stick my feet under the car tires, kinda ghetto, but works)

before you're strong enough to do it solo, just help using hands.

google glute ham raise, fantastic exericse.

If you can't do a single regular pushup, then do these until you can.
