More of a Health thread here. I've been using a Braun electric razor for about 2 years now, but it's become pretty ineffective. I've tried replacing the blades, but I think the problem is that it has screwed over the grain of my hair, it now goes in every direction. I'm so fed up with unsightly razorburn and ingrown hairs that I tried to go back to a safety razor, but the fucking blades they sell are so dull I have to press hard and sweep four to six times to get all the hair off! I think I have a kitchen knife that's sharper than these pieces of shit.

What does /fit/ recommend? I've been looking at double-edged single-bladed safety razors because I hear they're much sharper, but I've yet to find a razor, just the blades for them. Oh and before anyone asks, when I used the grocer razors I did hot water and lather with shaving foam just after taking a shower.

>just after taking a shower

That slightly inflames your skin such that it hides the closest part of your facial hair. Shave prior to a shower and you should get better results.

Might not solve ingrown hair or razor burn problems, but you'll get a closer shave, if nothing else.

I don't believe that's true at all, unless you're scratching your neck with a pumice stone in the shower. If you shave just before taking a shower, your skin is likely to be either oily or dry, and the hair matted down.

Well, I read it off of the instructions on my electric razor, so...

Electrics are a different animal. They're pretty much for people who can't use an actual blade.

# Razor shave: wet/hot skin. Electric shave: dry skin.

I shave once every month or so (I have OP's problem, but I kinda like having some facial hair). Comes out to mere fractions of a second per day.

Bump for some actual help. I know 4chan is infected with neckbeards, but at least some of you have to shave the old fashioned way.

I used to get pretty bad razor burn. Then I read a recipe on the internet which stopped it fully.

Go buy some tee-tree oil, and mix it 1:1 with normal vegetable oil.

Apply a few drops before shaving. It's a lubricant and antiseptic and anti-irritant in one. Just make sure you rinse off with soap after.

also, get an electric razor. That stops a lot of the irritation too.

"Safety" straight-razors are for weenies. Get a real one like the one in your picture. Pick up a strop to go with it, and a bottle of bay rum to use as aftershave.
