5'10, 280lbs

I decided I'm going to lose a lot of weight, so I started going to the gym about a week ago. I also cut out all sugary drinks from my diet and started eating with much more moderation.

My routine consists of 15-30 mins on elliptical, depending how I feel, and then walking 2 miles on the treadmill, with some light lifting in between. How does this sound? Anything you would recommend I do differently? I plan on increasing the distance and intensity as time goes on, but how's this for starting a week ago?

I think you're on the right path. You're gradually changing your life style, which is a good thing. Less of a chance for you to give up.

If you workout was really hard and your diet very strict, there is a good chance you would fail. Start light then gradually increase your exercise and restrict your diet.
