Hello again /fit/
I'm the anon who was asking about buying a stationary bike two days ago. So, I bought it. Can you give me any advice on the workout? How long should I do? How many calories should I aim to burn, or how much distance should I aim to pedal? My first attempt lasted 40 minutes and ended at 14.4 km and only 122 calories burned. Add to this my usual ab and weight workout and you get maybe 300 calories burned. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but how the fuck am I supposed to lose weight like that? 300 calories is like... a bowl of OATZ, but I eat more than once a day!

I don't have time to run outside. I have to read while biking to because I have an exam in three weeks.
And besides, it's almost winter.

You use most food you consume for things like keeping your heart beating... general movements etc. You get the idea. It's called your BMR. If you consume 500 cals less than that and do an additional 500 cals of exercise per day, you're on the way.

Okay, now you got me kinda worried. Either this BMR thing is bullshit, or I need to consult an endocrinologist pronto. Because according to the Harris Benedict Equation I googled up, I need 2756 cals to maintain my weight. For the last three months I've been keeping my daily intake below 2400 cals AND exercising, and my weight hasn't changed at all. Maybe I'm sick or something?

petaling your gay little bike for 40 min's at a fast rate should burn more like 400 cal's. I run 6+ miles a day which takes 45 mins or so and that burns 500-600 depending on the pace. If you really suck at your bike just go pound some trails.

How fast is fast? I keep at around 15-20 km\h with faster bursts at the start and at the end.

I always assumed running burnt a lot more calories then biking... yah know, the whole mechanical advantage thing and all...

You have to be burning more cal's than the bike is telling you. It has be at least 200. Find a website that calulates your resting metabolism and from that you can calculate what you burn for your activities. You must be burning more thatn you think but once again running burns more and swiming even more than that.

Uh, okay, I just did some research and calculations - everything points to my daily intake of ~2400 being perfect for me to lose weight. But it's been four months now and it keeps fluctuating between 104 and 106 kilos. :\
