Fat loss doesn't jsut leave from the place it is worked. You lose fat everywhere on your body at once. If you did 1000 squats a day then u'd still lose fat everywhere, not just in the legs. The same thing works with abs. Just because you only work abs doesn't mean you'll only lose fat there.
Rugby is a great workout, not just running but resistance too. By cutting down on that you miss out on strength training too(from all the pushing, tackles etc.) So you need to run more and hit the gym. Or just go rugby it up.
