Hello /fit/

I have a heart defect that was "corrected" (read : sort of corrected) earlier in my life, as well as being on various medications (Strattera notably).

Anyway, to get to the point, i'm looking to lose weight. However, i'm not exactly fantastic at exercise due to aforementioned problems. Does Anon have any advice on a diet/exercise plan for someone in a situation such as myself?

OP here

Actually, I had open-heart surgery when I was 5 for VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect). Unfortunately, it was the old days then, so I have scar running most of the way down my chest.

better to be safe than sorry. talk to your doctor if exercising is okay for you.

I actually did about a year ago. The short version : I'm "okay" to exercise but not to be surprised if I get tired quickly. Which is pretty much my whole problem, and why I want to try to get into decent shape.

Simply put, i'm tired of being tired.

If you get tired quickly and have potential heart issues, start by just walking. A lot. Throw some jogging in, and then start walking when you get too tired (even if it's 15 seconds). Just keep doing it and it'll get better. Swimming wouldn't be too bad. Or even yoga. Since you're so out of shape, just start slow. Don't think you can go nuts right off the bat.

Sounds reasonable.

For what it's worth, i've had a decent amount of success with dieting only so far, but sorta hit a wall recently (which is what provoked looking into what to do to get further).

I started out at 270, i'm down to 245. (6'1 male 24 years old, for what that's worth)

Good job OP. Keep it up! Just start moving. At that weight, that's all you really gotta do. Make sure you're up when you can be, and moving when you get the chance.
