/fit/, I have a problem.

I had a New Years Resolution to lose 70 pounds (I weighed 195 at the beginning of 2008). I started jogging and limited myself to eating once a day. Last I checked my weight was 2 weeks ago, and I weighed 144, so I thought I was on the right track. But lately it's been hard for me to keep up my routine. I'm getting hungrier... a lot. I still jog, I'm up to 6 miles now, so I burn tons of calories, but I'm eating more, and not healthy either. Stuff like cookies and candy bars and brownies and what-have-you. I'm worried that I'm going to gain all my weight back.

Well, now, see, right thar, that thar is yer problem.

I know when your body is starving it craves that sugary junk, but you have to force yourself not to give in. I know it's difficult, I have problems with it too. But you have to overcome the cravings. If you do it well for a while, eventually your body will stop screaming for refined sugar.

If you exercise enough(a ridiculous amount), you can eat terrible, terrible food and still lose weight/stay at your target weight. You won't be healthy though, and isn't that the real reason to exercise? For snacking I pre-peel and slice up a shitton of bananas, mangoes and kiwifruit and freeze the whole batch, they make SEXCELLENT frozen treats and they last for months. Suffer the work for an hour or two and you'll have a ready made snack that's good anytime in your house, and it'll save you a trip to the convenience store.

Once a day? That's fucking stupid. Even if you lost your job, buy real groceries, they aren't expensive when you think about the price comparison with fast food, and you should be able to eat healthy meals/snacks a couple times of day.

jogging that much, you've gained muscle and made your metabolism faster. Uses up more calores/nutriments. Eat better food.

Keyword here: nutriments. Don't care if you pour shit chocolate sauce on freshly cut fruits to get your sugar fix, but at least ingest good food with it.

I look like a fucking twig and love it. I am so underestimated in fights and I fuck them up. Skinny guys, try to up your muscle mass, but if you're an ectomorph like me you have to work a lot harder to develop size, but just learn how to fight. Size doesn't mean a thing if all you know is vaguely how to throw a punch.

It's all about mentality.

Doomed to failure: "I want to lose X number of pounds, so I'm going to do what it takes"

Long term success: "I'm going to completely change my lifestyle. I'm going to eat healthy and exercise in a way that I can maintain for the rest of my life"

Why does the first mentality end up failing? Because people that do that usually crash diet and exercise themselves to exhaustion. No one can do that for a long period of time. You'll get tired of it and you'll end up tapering off your exercise routine until you only work out once a week, then eventually you stop altogether. Meanwhile you're doing the same thing with your diet. One piece of junk food every night before bed becomes a shit diet consisting of fried chicken and hamburgers.

So when you're about to go running or whatever, avoid thinking that you're lacing up your shoes "to meet your weight loss goal for the week". Instead think of it as a journey. Something you do to keep your heart in good shape so you can live longer and feel better. Something that's a part of your daily routine, like brushing your teeth. It's an opportunity to clear your mind lessen the stress of daily life.
