So I've been running every day, I started out doing a 1-2 miles, and now I'm doing 3 a day. I started losing weight, but now I'm gaining a little. One of my friends who is a martial artist says muscle will start to form before I lose the fat and that's the weight gain. Is this true? Will I start to lose my fat if I keep increaing the ammount I run?

You can lose fat while still gaining weight.
Muscles weights more than fat.

Also, you need to eat healthy.

I should have mentioned, I am reating very healthy, so that's in part why I was confused.

Which weighs more: a pound of muscle, or a pound of fat?

since when is running a muscle building sport?

It's cardio...

Truth, but it does inherently build leg muscle if you were very sedentary prior to taking it up.

You WILL build some muscle from running if you begin from a totally sedentary lifestyle. This goes double if you're a fatty. Not a hell of a lot of muscle, but enough to show up on a scale.

OP: If you're not keeping a food diary, you're kidding yourself about your diet. Keep one. No excuses.

If running doesn't build muscle, someone should let all of those olympic sprinters know they're breaking the rules.

There's more to their training and workout than just running...

A pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat
<lulz>

Seriously, though, Muscle is much more dense/compact, than fat so theoretically, OP could be inches thinner but pounds heavier.

Or, more likely, lost a little (if any) ambient fat and is developing rippling thighs/calves of steel.

OP is keeping a food diary, but gave up sweets and junk food about a month ago. As well, OP's father has diabetes, so OP has stocked the fridge with the veggies and whole wheat noodles, etc, etc.
