Alright /fit/, I need some advice. This time last year, I was in excellent shape, 5'9, around 170 lbs of muscle. I ran every other day, lifted regularly, and football helped to keep me in pretty good shape. Then I had a period of three or four months where I had mono followed by hepatitis followed by gastrointestinal problems, which kept me from exercising at all during this 3-4 month span. I gained about thirty pounds of fat, lost most of my muscle and all of my cardiorespitory endurance. Now I'm fairly pudgy, and want to get rid of all of the excess fat.

Here's the problem: I don't know if I should run constantly to lose the fat and extra weight before I start lifting to regain the muscle, or if I should lift regularly from the beginning as well. What do you think, /fit/?

tl;dr I was in good shape, got sick and got fat, and want to get back in good shape. How?

1) if you got into good shape, you know what it takes.

2) I went two year without any sort of physical exercise whatsoever, and I still retain about 60% ability, and muscle. I think you're over exaggerating your condition. Go take those shoe-burus for a ride.

Both, and experiment with new things to keep shocking your body for maximum improvement. Try some new sports, or biking, or rollerblading. Try new types of lifting, and check out www.bodybuilding.com, everything you ever need is there.

Also, keep your diet high in fibrous carbs and protein, and low in saturated fats.
