Carbs vs Calories Anonymous
Greetings Anon, I was wondering if you could answer a question for me.

My friend is on a low calorie diet and he told me it's a pain only being able to have small meals. So, I suggested that he should try the low carb diet. That way he could eat as much as he wanted, as long as the thing he was eating was low on carbs.

He responded by telling me that the low carb diet doesn't work because your calorie intake nullifies the effect of the low carb intake.

I've personally been on the low carb diet 2 times myself and I did lose some weight. However, it is entirely possible that I lost the weight due to not eating a lot, since most of the foods I like are carb filled. I can't really remember that far back to make an accurate statement on how I ate.

Now, my friend is probably going to end up right. He is smarter than me. But I just wanted to be sure.

Thanks Anon!

No shit he's right. You can't eat a shit load of calories and take in no carbs and expect to lose weight. Jesus Christ you're stupid. Victim of fucking marketing bullshit.

While he's mostly right, keto diets can generally be used to break plateaus that happen near the end of a cut. That doesn't mean you can eat as much as you want, though, you still have to eat a bit under your BMR.

Also, how many calories is he taking in? I honestly don't see how he can be hungry, I could get full with 1500 a day.

I slept through health class, so sue me >.>

I believe he's eating a little under 1500 a day. He works out at the same time, though. And he's a big guy (Not fat, just big)

Oh, and thanks for the answers. Even though I'm out 5 bucks, now :(

Cutting carbs helps. It isn't a cure-all.
