Haha, I thought that too when I first started keeping a food diary a few months ago. But now it's become part of my eating process and I love it. Food diaries rock as long as you do it right: Keep it for a week or so to just record, not as a bible for cutting back calories. Then look at it and see what you can cut out while staying health (ie junk food and stuff). Begin to do so the following week, while keeping a calorie count. As for getting to your calorie goal, say 140o/day, instead of saying 'O GOD THIS IS X CAL I CAN'T HAVE IT' think 'hey, this is x cal, do I REALLY need it?' The longer you keep a diary the more natural it becomes and the less you worry about the calories.
