Alright, /fit/. I'm desperate.

I used to be a pretty skinny kid. I had a good body shape, but no real muscle definition because . . . well, I just didn't care that much. I was 5'8" then, 140 lbs, and underage b&.

Fast forward five years of "not caring". I've grown 2 inches taller, and gained just under 100 pounds. I have a huge (and growing) gut, fatty legs, and still little to no muscle.

I need to turn shit around before this gets any more out of control.

The problem is, I'm completely oblivious when it comes to the world of fitness. I don't know what exercises I should do, how, or what equipment I need to do them (this applies to both losing the weight I've put on, and then trying to tone up some muscle where the fat used to be). I don't even know how much weight I should look at losing in the first place. I have no idea what a healthy diet looks like. And to top it all off, I don't have enough money to join a gym, where I could at least get some real-life advice.

TL;DR, Where do I start, /fit/?

real-life advice? Ever heard of a doctor?

Okay, you got me there. Making an appointment as we speak.

Still, in the meantime, is there anything /fit/ can suggest?

Doctors are about as accurate as /fit/ for general advice. Most docs are just legalized drug dealers.

Start swimming, biking, running/jogging/walking(whatever you can do). Don't drink soda or eat fast food. The pounds will come off.

doctors are human. A GP isn't necessarily going to be a genius when it comes to fitness.
