Get in the habit of recording your calorie intake on http: //fitday.com just to make sure your eating habits are what you think they are. Otherwise, consistent cardio and weight lifting will have losing pounds. If you're doing everything right, expect to lose 1-2 pounds per week (15-30 pounds over the summer).
Also, look up HIIT. I dunno how in shape you are, but it might be of more use than just going slowly for long periods of time on a treadmill/elliptical/bike
