Side bends: grab something heavy. Lean to the side, stand straight up. Make sure both feet stay on the floor and your spine only bends sideways, not front/back

Hanging leg raises: Hang onto something overhead. Raise your legs, straight, until they're parallel with the floor. If this is too tough, try raising just your knees to the chest. Lower slowly and try not to swing.

Hanging leg raises are the shit (hits the core completely)! If you can do them do them, but if you can't an easier alternative is to do leg raises lying on your back.
