i got this new job at a brewery, and I spend a lot of time on my feet and hauling around a lot of kegs and cases and shit. it's not TERRIBLY physically demanding, but i definitely feel completely exhausted when I get off work, and i'm usually too tired to go to the gym

this shit's gotta stop. i've paused my Stronglifts regimen for about 2 weeks now. i'm gonna kick it back into gear again tomorrow (which happens to be one of my days off). my questions are:

can I just start my Stronglifts program where I left off, or should I deload a little bit?

how do you motivate yourself to hit the gym after you've spent all day on your feet and you're tired as fuck? seriously, like the first week I had my job I'd hit some cardio afterwards and I would only last about 15 minutes (this is LISS we're talking about here) before I would just physically and mentally say "fuck it, i'm done"

I would imagine your diet would play a vital role in your motivation - as usual slow-releasing energy sources like pasta, potatoes and banannas throughout the day and then a good dinner full followed by an hours browsing of /fit/ should help.

I find that my fitness regime is a hobby now more than a means to having a good physique. 8 months on and I'm starting to feel that a good body is simply a byproduct of an interest in gaining strength.

OP I work in a bar, and I think you'll agree that lifting kegs uses the same muscles as those recruited in deadlifting - this alone is motivation in action as I see the effort I put in the gym being manifested in the workplace.

Keep up the good work, and continue reading /fit/ as much as possible to gain motivation.

you're probably right, i've been skipping tons of meals since i've started. i also abandoned my traditional oatmeal breakfast, which makes me :( all over

keg lifting is one hell of a workout, but i'm not really sure that it's enough for me. really, it's the cardio that i'm worried about. i'm cutting (er, just losing weight, cuz i'm not really bbing in the first place) and i was making good progress before I started this job, and shit's kinda stalled.

i probably just need to eat more carbs. thx anon.

Pasta is a refined wheat product. It doesn't metabolize as slowly as America wants you to think. Same thing with whole-grain, doesn't change what it essentially is. Kind of like whole grain bread with HFCS and sugar in it.

OP, some great foods to eat that metabolize slowly would be eggs (the whole thing), virtually any fruit, beans, lean beef, fish and olive oil to name a few. The important thing is to keep in mind that our bodies should be eating the things that our bodies were naturally intended to digest. Keep all processed foods and artificial ingredients to a minimum if you can. Also make sure you incorporate plenty of soluble fiber into your diet. Believe me when I tell you this, what you eat governs how your body works, how much weight you will lose or gain, how your immune system stacks up and the health of every bone, organ and cell in your body.
You wouldn't want to put watered-down gasoline in your car instead of the real thing, would you?

Wholegrain is bullshit for the system? Wholemeal is a better alternative then I presume? I've been eating Wholegrain as an alternative to white bread since February, I hope I haven't been limiting myself by eating wholegrain..

I'm not going to tell you that it's the equivalent of eating purely nutrient-sapped foods such as white bread. Make sure you read the labels carefully. Sprouted wheat bread is the best option and it's actually really good.

MAD PROPS TO EVERYONE WHO DOES THIS, SERIOUSLY

I'm trying to do this, when I get a job. I absolutely have no idea how I'm gonna pull it off though. Well first I have to get a job, but yeah....yah...
