Question, my fellow disciples of fitness... Anonymous
OK, /fit/, I began the stronglift 5x5 training and 3 weeks into it, I my squat nearly doubled. It's awesome.

Here's my problem though... I only do 4 workouts with the heaviest fucking weight, right? But I also want to work on my biceps and triceps. I know this is supposed to build muscle everywhere, but I want my arms to grow faster. Also, the lack of direct arm exercises has been making me feel like I haven't done the load of work I'm supposed to.

So here's my question: Stronglift's 5x5 is scheduled for M W F with 4 days break. Would it be OK to do isolation arm exercises Tue and Thurs? Or maybe after the M W F strength sessions?

No, because you want your triceps to be as healed as possible for bench presses, you don't want to negate a gain simply so that you could make your triceps look slightly fuller.

Also Dead lifts will pack meat onto your biceps more than curls would. Just stick to it, you'll be able to do all the isolation in the world later on.

This. This this this.

OP here. Is there a set amount of weeks I'm supposed to be on this strength training? Because here's the thing I don't understand probably because I'm inexperienced. Correct me if I'm wrong:

When I began working out, I was kinda skinny doing split routines: Tri and Bi one day, Back another, chest another, etc. It didn't work. Can you tell me why?

Actually, back during when I was doing that, I didn't work much on my legs, actually.. That's probably it.

But is one supposed to do strength training before mass training or what?

OP here. In other words... when CAN I do isolations?

You can do isolations once you feel you have the strength to successfully target every muscle group with heavy weight.

There is absolutely no target range for us to tell you, and you never actually HAVE to do any Hyper-trophy routines. You can still get large and thick through Powerlifting, but if Bodybuilding is your goal, I would at least build up a strength base for a year, or two.

If you want, you could try this routine. It's more orientated for athletes, and will make you gain more muscle mass than 5x5, because of the Hypertrophy day.

I personally like 5x5 more, but its up to you.

OP here, but why didn't I gain mass when I just worked out isolations for my arms? Does working legs and doing squats really put mass on the upper body? Sorry for the inexperience.

Doing heavy compound movements like Squats and Deadlifts send hormones throughout your body, stimulating growth. You do not experience the same type of pressure when doing curls that you do when doing heavy-squats.

Can a person become large simply though isolation exercises? Yes. Will someone doing heavy compounds be able to achieve that size in a much smaller time frame? Yes.

because heavy compound lifts trigger hormonal release, especially testosterone and hgh.
Lift heavy and your body grows.
