Gloves aren't a matter of fashion. Get rid of them.

As for your form... you want to be driving up with your legs almost exlusively (keeping your back as veritcal as possible) until your legs start to straighten... then you pop the hips out an raise the back to lockout.

I wear full fingered batting gloves at the gym because guys are fucking disgusting and don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. It smells like brewers yeast and balls on there, I turn into niles crane and touch everything with a paper towel, wait for someone to come in so I can leave without touching the door by catching it with my foot. Of course the laws of the universe pretty much assures I'll be the first one to get a staph infection

Ok, not OP here, but my gym doesn't allow chalk to be used when lifting. I'm getting to the point (355 lb 5RM deadlift) where I need some grip support. Are gloves a good alternative to chalk?

I'd work on grip strength instead of opting for straps/hooks...etc.

I use straps from time to time, but that's because I have wrist tendinitis.

Invest on grip strengthening handles/grips instead. People will start to think twice about shaking hands with you :) .

in fact they make the bar thicker so it is actually harder to hold
are you using double overhand grip or alternate?
switch to alternate for your heaviest sets
you can also get liquid chalk and sneak it into your gym
