Anything i can do with weights to increase the damage done by my punches?

Pic sort of related, because he punches people for a living.

Deadlifts. Punches come from the glutes.

bench press

if you really want to improve your punching power, you should look into explosive power and plyometrics

Rampage says the glutes are the most important punching muscles. It was on the discovery channel, and they confirmed that's where most punch power is generated.

will a boxer PLEASE answer this guys question?

my eyes are bleeding

The most useful muscles for punching power are on your back

You need rotation and to put your whole weight behind the punch to give it real power

I've been boxing for six years now for the record, and my advice too you is: plyometrics and bagwork.

Do clapping pushups, olympic lifts such as cleans and snatches, and spend at least 80% of your training time hitting a heavybag. A rule of thumb I was tought was for every minute you're in a fight, you should have spent at least 20 hours total doing bagwork.

Maybe... I dunno, punching? With weights? Punching comes ALL from the arms.

I agree. You need to do a lot of curls to get really strong punches.

This. Can't punch hard if you don't know how to punch at all.

I'd suggest shadow boxing with really light women's weights (2kg?) to train for extra force whilst maintaining posture and stance.

Punches use mainly the best, triceps, lats and deltoids. Although entire body movement is needed for a successful force (stances and turns are vital to maintain balance and defence).

Do pull ups, dips, bench presses, chest flies, press ups, diamond press ups, inclined bench and chest flies, tricep extensions, tricep kick backs. Wrist strength is also quite important so work on wrist curls and reversed wrist curls.

i saw this on that UFC show. and Lidell's protoge was throwing a medicine ball (from the chest) into a wall. it will help, but you still need to get a good full body routine. wind up slowly and observe the muscles you feel moving. your legs and ankles twist, your knees lean you, your back and shoulders twist, your core pushes energy out as you breath with exertion, your arms deliver the blow. your wrists need to be strong and your knuckles conditioned. you need to work on everything
weights, bag, running, swimming, stretching

Punching is form first. If your form sucks, you will always hit like a bitch.

Absolutely, and most importantly in the wrist.

If you have a flimsy wrist, you are FUCKED.

You did NOT suggest bicep curls!

Large biceps are counter-intuitive towards having powerful punches. The strength behind punches come from your core/hips. Try punching without the twisting motion of your lower body then try it with the full range of motion. Notice something?

Watch your form, better yet, get somebody else to watch your form for you. Chances are you are wasting too much energy from poor form. Have someone observe your form to improve it.

Oh and just read topic. Good punching = good torque from waist. Unless you're practicing some ancient Kung Fu
>> Anonymous
Get better punching technique. You can be built like a truck and still punch like crap if you're not good at punching.
>> Anonymous
In addition to hitting hard you have to be able to not hurt yourself in the action. If you are out on the street and need to punch somebody, you probably won't be able to put on some gloves. So I suggest you get a steel plate and mount it to something solid then punch it as hard as you can without hurting your hand and do that several times a day until your bones in your hand become as dense as they can possibly be.

Also, for the idiot that said punch with weights, no. That trains the wrong muscles, as the weight is just causing your arm to fight gravity. A resistance band is the way to go if you want that kind of training.

>>160636
You punch with weights for endurance.
Boxing is an endurance sport, so not having the strength to keep your hands up in the 5-10 round sucks.

You still need acceleration to force it forward. Einstein says gravity is equal to acceleration.

lrn2einstein

that would be vertical acceleration

Fuck me please tell me you're trolling. You really haven't learnt Einstein have you? Einstein claims acceleration (IN ANY DIRECTION) equalizes that of the gravitational pull. When you push weighted force forwards, the acceleration ('gravity') pulls the direction you push.

I like how this example only deals with VERTICAL MOTION LIKE I SAID
>> Anonymous

+1

also, it's not only the muscle
a good punch start on the feet
the position of your body, the rotation of your whole body
that's what will put power in your punch
>> Anonymous
Would being in the bench press position and doing jabs with no hip rotation with weights ( hitting towards the cieling ) do any good?
>> Anonymous
>>160882
You fucking retard. Rocket, in space, no gravitational pull. It doesn't matter which way the rocket goes, it's not going 'vertical' because there is no 'up' due to lack of gravity! If the rocket was sideways, whateverthefuck was in it will go towards the direction of the force horizontally. If the rocket was UPSIDE DOWN, objects would be pulled 'upwards' towards the projectile. How the fuck was that kiddie animation too complicated for you? You got confused just because the cartoon showed the rocket standing upright. Fuck, idiotic faggots like you make me RAAAGE irl.

so then smartfag, if the rocket is between two objects that both exert gravitational force on the rocket then which way is up?

lrn2butthurt

>>160986
1. The animation presumes there's absolutely no gravitational pull, where the fuck did the 2 objects come from.
2. That has fuck all to do with increasing damage in punches.
3. You need to get back in school, you'll have plenty of time to get /fit/ when you do hard labour.
>> Anonymous
>>160986
or was that a shitty attempt to test my knowledge?
In which case anyone who's not fucking retarded would tell you there'd be an infinitive line splitting between the two objects (assuming you mean the objects are the same mass and distance apart). Upwards would be dictated depending on which side of the line it coincides with. If exactly in the middle, there would be, hypothetically speaking, no upwards (or downwards) direction.

If that was too difficult for you, go back to gaia. Health and fitness is obviously too complex for you.

and fuck it. Samefags bumping this thread. I can't be fucked to educate a retard that doesn't understand gravity. This is the last time I post for you.
>> Anonymous
>>161025

Alright, so fuck them. How would I use the resistance bands?
>> Anonymous
>>161026
1. Attach one end of the band to the wall/anything behind you at shoulder height.
2. Turn your back against that end of the band.
3. Walk forward far enough so that the band stretches and start punching forwards.
4. ???????
5. PROFIT

Oh my fucking god.

OP, please don't listen to any of these people. If you're going to ask how to improve your punching you need to ask on a fucking boxing or MMA forum, NOT /fit/. The only thing you'll get out of any of the shit these guys are suggesting is hurt.

Wow, this thread is retarded but actually makes some good points. I've been a boxer for 2 years OP, so i'll do my best to help. First off, like a lot of people said, that form is key to any punch. The better the form the more damage done. The best place to learn form is not from internet pictures but going to a gym and letting a trainer teach you/evaluate you. Believe me your always going to be a little off on form if you teach yourself, best let a professional at least give you some pointers. Now all this being said if you don't have any strength behind your punch, well then your in a for a long drawn out fight where your going to have to rely on wearing your opponent down with quick combinations. Course this works very well but you asked for increased punch damage and the best way to do that is increase strength throughout your entire body. The power of a punch (when done with correct form) comes from the legs upward. So your going to have to hit the weights a little bit, but for the love of god nothing like a bodybuilder split. High weight and low repetitions is where it's at. Other keys of the trade are bodyweight exercises (one armed pull ups, bodyweight squats) and unusual training methods like sandbag shouldering and like someone else mentioned hitting an old tire with a 8-10 pound sledge hammer (you will feel unbelievable manly after doing this). Also, never ever neglect the heavy bag, use it at least twice a week. Doing all this or even some of the things i've mentioned will make your punches do some solid falcon punch damage. A good place to find exercises or general knowledge about increasing strength is Ross Enamait's Infinite Intensity book, or just go to his website rosstraining.com. They have a ton of free articles to help you out.

OP here, thank you.
>> Moo !XBOXgikTFw
The best way to increase damage done would be tying the weights to your FISTS and punching people.
