Fitness newfag here. I'm tired of looking like a sack of shit, but not sure where to start.

Are the things in the picture a good thing to do every evening for starters?
(Dumbbells replaced with encyclopedia because it's currently the heaviest thing in my room)

The bicep lifts, no. As for the numbers ignore them - do as many as you can until exhaustion, then do 3 more.

So Pushups, squats, crunches, and instead of bicep lifts try dumbbell pressing.

Will do, thanks.

Really fat people can go 'lol 30 bicep curls with a book' and think they're done without breaking a sweat. Really skinny people that are out of shape can't do 20 push ups in a set.

So you do as many as you can, do a few more, then stop. Nice and simple.

Hammer is right.

Hit it till you can't anymore. Then stop for 30 secs and hit it again.

They key to developing mass is to push yourself to the absolute limit.
>> OP
I don't actually want to build up huge muscle, just use some of the flab (I'm not really fat, but not slim either) and get into a little better shape.

well regardless of your overall goal. The harder you work, the better results you will get.

Feeling 'burnt out' is all part of the process.

If you find a place to do pullups or dips, try to do those as well. I know you probably can't do a single pullup, but try Kippig pullups instead (google is your friend). But the other stuff you have is ok, I guess.

Add about 20 minutes of cardio 4 times a week, and your good. Start with slow jogs, elliptical machines, and bikes. Work your way up to 30 minutes 5-6 times a week with running (not always on the road, do trails and treadmills to relieve your joints) and swimming if you can.

No, feeling burnt out isn't part of the process at all. Feeling tired, sore, or whatever, yes, but not burnt out.

Training to failure is not something you do every day.

This thread is just so much fail that I'm going back to /k/. You fuckers can keep failing.

Curling books is fucking stupid. God damn it spend the fucking $20 to get a 30lb dumbbell, you only need fucking one.

No, you do it 3 times a week and light cardio on your 'off' days.

Do have a good site which explains the exercises?
I am confused by chin ups, dips...

search on youtube and you'll find instructional videos for each exercise.
