anyone else fence for exercising? Foilfag here. I was wondering what kind of drills I could put in to my footwork session to make it more effective.

I study German Longsword, the Lichteneur tradition (probably spelt that wrong), though fencing is also fun.

Get a cardio effect from bouts with longswords though, in my opinion.

Generally one should exercise for fencing...not fence for exercise. Go to the gym, go running, spend some time with a jump rope or agility ladder...this will help you more.

I do work out at the gym an hour before going off to fencing about 4 hours later everyday. I guess I should've worded my question better.

That is good. I would still recommend agility ladder to supplement footwork. Maybe this will be helpful?

Another used to be foil fag here. I would say sprinting is good for lounges and running is good for cardio. Though if i had to do fencing over i would do some weight lifting and train with weights during the footwork sessions. If you train the right way, you can very easily outpower and out endure people in foil.
