Recently I found out that most bath soaps are not actually soaps but are actually made from detergents in order to reduce manufacturing costs and can be harmful to the skin. Considering that the skin is the bodies largest organ and first line of defense against disease is anyone else concerned about this?

No. Stop being such a fucking pussy.

By harmful I'm sure they meant drying. Quit fucking bitching about stuff like this. I'd be a little bit more concerned with mercury in your food and pollution outside.

No, the detergents are created to replace natural bath soaps (which are made from animal fat and a hydrolysis agent further rinsed with other chemicals to remove the unwanted residue chunks from the soap product before being mixed with color dyes and perfume) so that if used in hard water, it wouldn't leave scum buildup, unlike regular soaps.

Secondly, this shit is regulated by the government. If it did damage, they'll pull it off the shelves.

You honestly believe that? I know they're not completely apathetic and wouldn't allow seriously dangerous products, but they don't really care much about something like this where the damage doesn't get much publicity. And that preventing scum buildup idea sounds like an excuse. I've never seen a soap marketed to prevent scum buildup.

You forgot THIRD

Thirdly, the makers of soap and shampoo products are multi-million dollar companies who >>DONT WANT TO BE SUED.

Why would they knowingly (let's face it, they do know what they're [producing) release a product that will harm their customers?

Because they can get away with it. Most people don't really care about their health or what goes into their bodies as long as it doesn't immediately make them sick. There's also advertising. People actually believe that just because a bar of detergent has aloe in it it's good for their skin.
