I've heard that ppl eat 6 smaller meals a day in order to increase their metabolism. Is this true? Please explain.

When you eat 3 big meals instead you put a lot of stress on your body to digest each time. When you eat more often in smaller proportions it's easier on your body and you're always digesting a reasonable amount. It doesn't just increase metabolism, it's healthier for your body as well.

but can eating less frequently slow down ur metabolism so that eventually u need less food less times a day and body is off the hook most of the time and you don't have to buy so much food overall?
it could be so win

It doesn't necessarily make your metabolism faster, though that can be a side effect.

The point of the 6 meal a day plan is that your metabolism is always going. It isn't digesting a big meal and then "resting" for a few hours until your next meal. The second it finishes processing one meal, the next one is comin' down the hatch, thus you burn more energy.

I believe in this theory and did this back before I let myself go. It makes intuitive sense and I often find myself telling people about this. But does anyone actually have any scientific citations from peer-reviewed studies to support this claim beyond mere dogmatic parroting?

Uhm.. Just go and fucking eat two apples for the second meal or shit like that. No one commands you to make a feast 6 times a day.
