hey /fit/How important is it for someone to quit drinking if they're trying to lose weight and get into shape? I'm talking an alcoholic that would have to go to AA and all that shit.
Depends what getting into shape is, if its weight loss its important as achool has alot of calories in it.

mainly for losing weight...lets say he drinks at least 3 quarts of rum or vodka a week, this is obviously way too much, right? his health is pretty down in the shitters, and its reached that point of "fix it now or youre fucked"
If they're that far gone then make sure they dont just quit cold-turkey. You have to ween people off alcohol, its worse than even hard drugs when you have a dependency, quitting quickly can be fatal.
It's quite important. 1 gram of alcohol is 7 calories, almost as much as a gram of fat.
