There not really essential if you eat right. If your young, you don't really need them. When you get older like around 40 or 50 you might want to take one each day. They wont hurt you if your taking extra vitamins you dont need, but might hurt your wallet if your buying some expensive kind. Whey isnt essential for gaining muscle mass, but it helps bulk you up quick. If your overweight then you already have something work off of. Only use whey if your a little skinny and want to be bigger.
