You can do isolations once you feel you have the strength to successfully target every muscle group with heavy weight.
There is absolutely no target range for us to tell you, and you never actually HAVE to do any Hyper-trophy routines. You can still get large and thick through Powerlifting, but if Bodybuilding is your goal, I would at least build up a strength base for a year, or two.
If you want, you could try this routine. It's more orientated for athletes, and will make you gain more muscle mass than 5x5, because of the Hypertrophy day.
I personally like 5x5 more, but its up to you.
