20 minutes before is perfect. 10 minutes of just a few minutes is OK. when I first started, it seemed very weird to try drinking a WHOLE cup before food. I didn't really want it. But it worked. It jump-started me out of crap foods to a hunger for real foods. Just takes a few days or tries to get used to. having water during or after the meal can kind of slow down absorption, but not really.
