there's a crap load of apartment buildings in the complex i live in, with stairs that reach to the 3rd floor.
is it a good idea to go up and down the stairs for about an hour a day?
i reckon this will get boring fast, so i plan to go to almost every building in the complex and do this.

You should swim instead. Not only is swimming a couple of laps in an average pool the equivalent calorie burn of running up and down three times as many flights of stairs. It's also more fun.
