/fit/ I have a question about weights.

My school has a really awful weight set with lots of mixed types. And I know for holy hell damn sure that one brand of 45 lbs weight is a lighter than the others.

It's definitely not my imagination. So... what brands of weights 'actually' weigh 45 lbs?

oh, and pic related, it's the weights that I'm damn sure are lighter than the others. Can someone confirm what they really weigh?

I don't know what school you go to but they should start teaching their students that 45lbs of feathers is equal to 45lbs of metal to 45lbs of meat.

What you know is called placebo, you think because one looks bigger than the other you think HOLY SHIT THIS IS A HEAVIER 45LBS THAN THE OTHER 45LBS!

Why is it that when I wasn't paying attention to what weights were on one day and I couldn't lift 225 pounds, then the next day it was the lighter brand of weights, I still didn't pay attention and I got it up WAY easier?

No placebo effect.

No that's still placebo. Plus one day your body may have just been more ready. Different things to eat, more sleep/better sleep. All 45 pound weights weight 45 pounds.

Btw gratz on getting 225.

OP, you are somewhat correct. In actuality, some of those 45lb plates may not weight EXACTLY 45lbs, with maybe tenths-hundredths of a pound difference between different manufacturers. That small amount of disequilibrium that could be caused by mixing and matching plates on each side could be noticeable, but probably not appreciable.

45 is 45. there are different dencities of metals. for instance the 25 lb dumbells i own in my house are twice teh size of teh ones at my gym. but they are all the same weight. it's the same thing with plates. the design , dips and full thinkness ridges (for lack of a better discription) can also cause one to look larger then another. it is a placebo effect if you can lift one easier.

Just weight it with a scale man. There's no other way to tell if actually ones are heavier or lighter than the others
