How can I gain weight?!?! Im 16 5' 6'' 119lbs. Increased my calorie intake to somewhere around 2500-3000 calories a day been eating peanut butter, bananas, chicken and actually lost a pound...so what am I doing wrong? Want to get to at least 160 in 4-5 months. Is hitting the weight room the only way? I don't really want to get bulky... pic unrelated

That is a lot of weight to gain in a very short amount of time. If you gain that much weight it will almost certainly be all fat.

By looking at what you're eating, I am not seeing to many carbs. Make 60% of your caloric intake carbs, perferably from whole grains. You do need to eat some foods that have some fat in there too. Your diet looks like you're actually TRYING to loose weight.Also, how active are you? For many people 2500-3000 calories is how much they should be eating naturally. Try bumping it up to 3500, and if you start working out maybe even as high as 4000. I garuntee you will gain weight

Yes, goals are great and all, but you're being unrealistic for how scrawny you are right now. At the moment, your main concern needs to be about changing your lifestyle and establishing good nutritional and athletic habits. Results will come in due time. Patience and hard work are clutch. "Keeping your eye on the prize" is overrated and you can easily get discourage by how far off said prize might be. Instead, you need to focus on the here and now, and take one step at a time. Time passes faster than you think. You might not be at your stated goal in four or five months, but you'll be well on your way and you'll be able to achieve it eventually. That's all that matters, right?

Yeah the whole 2000 calorie a day thing is just an average number nutrition people use.

BMR = 66 + (6.23 x weight in pounds) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)

The above formula will tell you how many calories you burn in a day just being alive. From there just adjust up, and try to factor in how much activity you do.

5'6 and 160lb, if you don't hit weights and pack it on as muscle, is going to be pretty damn fat.
Unrealistic goals indeed.

5'10 and 160 is already pretty heavy if you're not fairly muscular.

Whoa, I didn't tell you to take it slow. You definitely have to push yourself if you want to see results. I am just recommending that you don't get your head too wrapped up in goals that might be unattainable. Do whatever it takes to keep you motivated, though.
