ANGER Anonymous
/fit/

In the past month or so, I have become extremely irritable; before, the emotion I would incline toward would usually be depression, but now anger has taken over in many situations to the point where I am just angry during most of the day (barring school class, I don't seem to get angry there). Now, this started about the same time I started gaining (pushing my caloric intake up 1000 calories a day, and upping my weight 10lbs on most all dumb bell / barbell workouts, and have generally increased the intensity of my workouts. Also, I should note that I dropped my cardio down from 4-5 days a week to once every 8 days.

Is there a relationship /fit/?

It's the extra testosterone, I'm guessing.

Dropping cardio is just bad in general. Since you're still in school I'll guess you're under 25 and have yet to see the metabolism downturn. And since you lift a lot and want to gain weight, I'll guess you're male.

All that said, what do you think about when you're lifting? And what are you thinking about when you feel yourself getting angry? Ask yourself, is this worthy of my energy? Thinking still burns calories and this irritability can put you in a bad set of mind while you work out, to the extent that you lose proper form and aren't gaining much from the actual lifting.

It's the testosterone.
The only way to overcome the anger is to work out more, thus creating a vicious cycle of muscle gain and completely blind anger.

I am never angry while working out, it is the one part of my day where I don't have to think -- a huge stress reliever. I have only dropped cardio for about 1.5 months, hoping to bulk up before the summer; that said, I am currently about to begin to cut (dropping 5 or so pounds of fat in 5 weeks), so I will be increasing my cardio back up to 3-4 times a week.

Also, yes I am 20, and a male.

And, I may have overstated my anger, I am not RAGING at every little thing, it is just that I have become more irritable; little things piss me off, but I don't explode, these annoyances go unvoiced.

hey OP, are you me?

except, i don't do the cardio.
i put it down to more testosterone/smoking less weed. my buddies hate me because i'm in superior physical shape, and i get pissed at innane conversations easy.
i have also come to the conclusion that my gym buddy is a dumbshit, and he annoys me to no end. i only need him to spot my bench. this is a recent development from getting stronger/more testosterone.

I had the same problem when I started working out. It's back to normal now and I haven't punched anyone in the anger period.

Just wait it out.

Same thing happened to me about a year and a half ago. Did nothing for twenty years, decided to start lifting. Had a quarterback buddy teach me the ropes.

Things are going well, 'cept a few months in I got in physical fights with some of my friends. Was pissy a lot, too.

QB buddy said it was the testosterone buildup. Patched things up with friends, moods have stabilized since.

Going from eating 2400 calories to 3500 calories at 130lb, 5'11", 9% BF.

Some days I may have eaten 4000 calories -- anything more and I couldn't get anything else done due to a swollen stomach.
