I know /fit/ is no friend of sugary, syrupy sodas... How do you feel about something like Coke Zero or other zero cal, zero sugar soda?

I am an IT fag, started working out recently, 185cm (~6'1") 81Kg (~180lb). I drink about 5 of these .5L Cokes a day but chase each one with a full 1L of H20.

Anything in excess will fuck you up, but I'd be more concerned about your teeth than your weight.

Try drinking green/white tea (not the pre-bottled shit), gives a nice energy boost, tons of antioxidants, increases metabolism, etc.

I was under the impression that it was the sugar in soda the fuked your teeth up. Is this also the case with sugar-free sodas? I have never had a cavity and do not intend to start now.

Enjoy your aspartame and the formaldehyde it metabolizes into in your body. Just drink pure can sugar soda.

5 liters water and 2.5 liters coca cola zero a day? :|

normal soda (sugary ones that is) needs bacteria to fuck your teeth up. and sugar-free ones don't need bacteria due to being 2-3 pH.

The fake sugar they put in Coke zero is WORSE than real sugar.

Sugar feeds the bacteria in your mouth. The bacteria eat your teeth. No sugar, no food for the bacteria.

Diet Soda is fine.

drinkin 5 of them a day, you gonna fuck your liver up

I drink coke zero and i like it, but i only have 1-2 cans a day at most...usually with meals. i don't like to drink water while i eat...

and drinking 5 of those is probably better than drinking 5 regular, but i'd still try to cut back..

if you just don't want regular water you can buy those little white tea on the go pouches.

you open them, pour them into a bottle of water, shake and voila, flavor.

I meant the shit they use to actually color the soda; while the composition of your teeth may be fine, the coloration may lead to something less than desireable.

>Diet Soda is fine.

For your teeth, maybe. But there's still a lot of controversy surrounding the effect of artificial sweeteners.

Also, carbonation fucks with your bone density.

God. NO. It's mostly the ACID in sodas that harms your teeths.

And bacteria does not "feed" on your teeth. Bacteria eats ANY leftover food particles, then it SHITS on your teeth. The bacterial waster products are what damage your teeth and cause odor.

Damn, get educated before speaking.

I replaced soda with Milk, Orange Juice, and various fruit juices. Worked really well after the first week or two of deprivation.(Mind you I'd drink 6+ cans a day). I drink coffee sometimes in the morning too so I dont feel caffeine deprived

The issue of artificial sweeteners in diet sodas is kind of a dead argument in my book.

Now, aspartame, an artificial sweetener in MOST diet drinks nowadays is a no-no in many ill-informed dieters out there. The argument is that aspartame can raise the risk of cancer; if consumed during very long periods of your time. There have been several studies that have shown that aspartame has been linked to causing cancer in lab rats. The problem with these studies is that they're NON-conclusive.

Mind you, aspartame can be dangerous, but not as dangerous as people like to put it.

Consider this - about 1 and a half summers ago, I consumed around a liter to 2 liters of diet coke EVERYDAY for about 3-4 months. That's a lot of diet soda, that's a lot of aspartame. Now, look at me, I'm in the best shape of my life. I'm not saying diet soda isn't good for you, but it sure as hell isn't bad for you. In a sense, it's both. From my personal experience, I have yet, to my knowledge, have caught any sort of illness or virus that could have been exasperated by the consumption of diet soda.

My advice: Drink it, it's fizzy, it's sugary... ish, it's delicious. It won't hurt you if you drink a can every-now-and-then. Just don't have it be 60% of your liquid intake. 'Cause that's just bad altogether.

That's not terrible advice, but it's not good advice.
If you're dieting, you really shouldn't be consuming any soda. Regardless of what product it's used to be flavored with. Cane Sugar, High Fructose Corn Syrup, Refined Table Sugar, etc, in excess can still cause a lot of harm. Soda is just sugar, all the calories come from sugar. I would just stay away from it altogether. Drink diet.

THIS. People need to stop thinking aspartame is the fucking end of the world. It's not. I used to drink about 48oz a day at least of diet pop. I did this for years. Then I decided to see what would happen if I cut out all pop entirely and drank nothing but water and milk. I did this for a few months.

Guess what? NOTHING CHANGED. I felt the same. I didn't lose any fat. My weight stayed the same. My performance in running and lifting didn't magically improve.

Plus, there's fucking formaldehyde in the goddamn air you breathe you paranoid faggots.

just weed it out of your diet, replace it with water, maybe some fresh juice on occasion:

if you need something carbonated, buy straight carbonated water, liquify some fruit, strain and add to a glass of carbonated water. Taste better than soda.

try drinking soda falt, then tell me it tastes good.

only things worth drinking imo
water/soymilk/tea/juice

however I do enjoy beer now and again

Personally, I feel healthier when I'm off soda and just consuming fruit juices, milk and water. I dunno if it's that the soda is bad or the less processes stuff is better, but I just feel bloated even from diet soda.

And yeah it is bad on your teeth, so are Powerade style drinks too though. What people forget is some people are just genetically predisposed to cavities.. personally I never get them despite having a sweet tooth, but I know people who bend over backwards to avoid excess sugar and still get cavities.

In terms of actually getting off soda, the first week is the hardest. Once you get used to drinking water or juice with the food you normally drank soda with, you hardly miss it. Until you slip up and have one soda one day, then you're back to square one. It's like crack for white collar people.
