How important is stretching to a newbie? I just started a week ago, should I do some stretching before I squat and deadlift, or is that something that really isn't important now?

Stretching is always important. ALWAYS.
Do not stretch before lifting weights. It will actually make it more likely for you to pull or tear something.Stretch on your off days, after a muscle is no longer sore.
Dynamic stretching before will help get you warmed up, static stretching afterwards will improve your flexibility and reduce soreness the next day.Google it.

I just static stretch after each workout. That's the most important thing.>>157445like he said don't do it before.
