It seems to me the reason most of the competitors on this show fail due to lack of grip strength.

When I think about it, the only way to work that out that comes to mind are those squeeze bars and maybe finger push-ups.

Doesn't deadlifting regularly also help with your grip strength?

doesn't hanging from a bar for longer and longer also improve it?

a few ways to work your grip.. instead of holding the bar for your pullups hang two towels from it, 1 in each hand and hold onto those. then do your pullups. Also let a towel soak then wring it out untill you can't get anymore water to drip, do it a few times.

take up judo and try holding onto peoples gis

Is it just me or does "Women of Ninja Warrior" seem like a harder course?

Yeah, but it also relies on the rest of your body - your grip might be stronger than what your body can lift and you may be easily gripping.

Hanging from a bar might work though.

It seems a lot easier actually

It's only harder if your balance sucks.

This one in particular.

Hold two plates together in one hand, rims inside so there is nothing to grab but smooth surface, and keep them from sliding apart by squeezing.

This works pinch grip.

The one that kills most people always seemed to be that one where you had to go across the ledge or whatever, where there was only room for your fingers. And you had to later climb up and then back down.

To practice that, try just holding onto a ledge type with just your fingers. It is very hard and hurts. = (
