Sup /tg/. I'd like to keep my endurance up and my weight down but gyms are expensive, so I often walk home from school. The trip used to take about an hour to 1h 15min, now it's been cut to 30-40 minutes. If I take this trip once a day, is this going to be effective, or will I have to start taking more detours?

Also, how accurate is BMI for an indicator of healthy weight?

Firstly, BMI is flawed shit.

Secondly, that's a huge increase in time. Are you 'power walking' at this point? If so, unless you want to get into running (and the accompaning sweat etc. which tend to require clothing changes) then you will have to add to your distance if you want to improve.

Or, if you were just a sluggish bastard to start with and only now are at a regular walking rate, keep upping your speed untill you're at 'power walking' (if you want to look that silly) and consider that a speed cap for no-gear-needed excersize.

>no gear

Erm. I've got a backpack of books along with that - that doesn't make a significant difference, does it?

I think he just meant you wouldn't need a change of clothes or to get running shoes ('gear') if you were just walking or power walkin'

BMI is accurate for thin people and fat people in regards to weight proportion. It is not a good indicator of general health or of anything involving muscular people.

Just walking is ok for weight control, or weight loss if you're fat. If you really want to make a change in your fitness level you need to intentionally work out with purpose, not just fucking exist.
