Hi /fit/, I really do hope this is not a duplicated question.

I went to GNC and asked for help picking a protein supplement. I took one home, 50G of protein per serving (which I think is too much) Then I read on and saw it has 800 MOFUCKING CALORIES! I couldn't believe it, I found out it has nearly 60% of the daily recommended amount of carbs along with the protein.

I want to gain muscle and have a VERY low body fat percentage, for defined abs, etc. so this protein supplement can't be right for me... or is it? I mean, if I'm not burning all these carbs they will eventually be stored as fat...
so HALP, what protein supplement is right for me? Specifics would be nice.

TL;DR: Need halp picking a protein supplement that will build muscle only.

Picture is first image when searching "protein"

Let me break this shit down like a fraction.

To GAIN Muscle, you need to eat more calories than you burn. If these calories are not in the form of fat, and you workout hard, you will put these extra calories on as lean muscle. If these calories are fat, then you will get fat.

To get big and ripped, you need to do them one at a time. First, you need to bulk(eat more than you burn), and once you've reached your ideal weight, you need to cut(eat less than you burn) to burn of the extra bodyfat you put on while bulking

Sounds like you bought a gainer. You gotta take 2.5 scoops of a gainer to be equivalant of one scoop of protein powder. The guys at GNC seem to be stubborn, i had to tell them 5 times i wanted a protein supplement before they realize i actually know what i want.

No. If your calories are from fat, they are still calories. It just means you must eat a comparatively smaller amount of grams, because 1g of fat contains 9 calories, instead of 4 like protein and carbs do. Don't worry too much about fat; unless you're eating hamburgers and bacon all day, you're unlikely to overdose on fat. Worry about carb intake.

OP, sounds like you bought a weight gainer and not a simple protein supp. Exchange it and get something that suits you.

OP here,

Thanks all, yeah this is a gainer... and I don't want to gain.
Any specific protein supplements I should consider?

Yes. Chicken. Lots of it.

Your best bet is not to shop at GNC. They are concerned more about getting your money than about giving you what you need.

You can get generic protein powders in plenty of shops, such as walmart and some supermarkets. Ignore the hype on the labels about "NOW WITH MORE ULTRAFILTERED MICROFRACTIONS!!!" It's just protein. Don't waste your money on something you don't need.

Yep. Any protein supplement with that many carbs is going to be a weight gainer.
I second the "don't go to GNC. Ever" sentiment.

P.S. I like how the guy in OP's picture wearing the green shirt has a claw.

What if I wanna loose weight, and then gain muscles? Would I have to start eating again?
