sup /fit/

So I went to the gym today.

Did squatz and bench press for the first time. Shit was pretty cash.

I asked the trainer guy there for help. He was trying to sell me a personal training session ($33/hr)..
He first showed me squatz, then I asked him about the bench press. And after he showed me he was liek "you should really get some gym basics before you do advanced exercises liek the squatz. You should sign up for some personal training"

I plan on starting stronglifts next week. And the only exercises left that I've never tried are the inverted rows (which look easy, but I might skip since the ground looks dirty) and the deadlift (doesn't seem too difficult).

Should I get some of the personal training /fit/ (I have the money but I don't know if it's worth it)?

Thoughts /fit/?

guess I'm lucky there's this cut nigger at my gym who saw me failing at squats one day and taught me how to do them properly. He spots for me everytime we're at the gym to together now.

It's at my uni, so it's mostly students who are the trainers (not too many non-student trainers as far as I know).

One-on-One Training:
Number of Sessions Fee Per Session
Students Non-Students
1 - 4 $33 $39
5 - 9 $31 $36
10 - 20 $29 $34

Group Training:

Group Fees: All sessions $25/hour per person (max of 3 people).

lol paying for fitness advice is a load of crap. Just lay your goals on the table and ask for advice here.

Seriously... You can buy some girls drinks with that money!

if you feel it's worth it, 1 or 2 sessions could probably help you just to make sure you're doing everything in good form.

for squats you do need training. then decide how you like to do them.

fitness trainers are for people who can't think themselves. Seriously, just squat and if you spot a experienced lifternearby and ask if your form was any good. That's what I did and that's what thought me to not pull a deadlift with my arms.

power cleans you need help with.

Read starting strength, video tape yourself doing SQUATZ, deadlifts, overhead press, etc... Watch videos of people doing them with good form, compare, repeat until your vids, and the good form vids looks identical. Post your vids on stronglifts weightlifting forum page asking for advice on your form, and fix whatever you need to fix.
