Fear of death at 22 Anonymous
I've had a history of high cholesterol, though otherwise no health problems. I'm going in for a blood test next week.

I'm 22 years old, about 6'1" tall, and my weight hovers between 170-180 lbs.

I haven't been to a gym or done any actual exercise in five years.

Since that time, I've developed a smoking habit (usually going through a pack of non-light ciggs every week, though I've gone without them for weeks and months at a time) and drinking habit (5-8 beers once a week at the most).

My diet consists of home-cooked Cuban-Italian meals with carbonated water (recently switched over from store-bought iced tea) and occasionally a sandwich from Subway, Quiznos, or Blimpie's.

I have a phone support job, which means I sit on my ass for hours at a time, only getting up to stretch or walk around a little bit.

With all these factors in mind, I've developed an intense paranoia that I'm going to be suddenly struck with something like a stroke or heart attack because of my cholesterol and subsequent negligence to my health over the years. Realistically, what is the likelihood that this could happen in the next 5-10 years?

This is relevant to my interests. I too am a customer service representative and I sit on my ass answering phones all day.

is like everybody on this board 22?

wikipedia says 22nd is the first year of adulthood (21 being the last year of adolescence)

prolly has to do something with aging

also you dont even have tachicardia (sp?) do you!? so why bother really?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aging#Dividing_the_lifespan

okf adolescence and adulthood overlap at 21 but whats the difference.

god im obsessed with aging a separate board for aging would be so relevant to my interests

Wouldn't it really be awesome if someday you magically decided to lead a new life. To stop smoking and to eat healthy? To become a man that doesn't long for candy anymore? And everything will just happen to you. You don't even have to decide on it and focus on it. You don't have to think you can do it, all you have to do is post a message on an imageboard explaining that you already know where your problems are.

That would indeed be magic.

i had tachicardia this spring but the doctors said im completely ok so initially i was like omg im gonna die

but seriously death is inevitable so why bother

im also stick skinny and came to conclusion that the tachicardia is in my head (it prolly is)

now im equiped with beta-blockers and i still drink them every now and then when i feel strong palpitations but i wouldnt stick to any regimen regarding taking beta-blockers

you sir are a victim of the wave after wave of health freaks clogging (excuse the pun) our TVs, papers and radios.

the human body is alot stronger than those idiots give it credit for and youre NOT gonna drop dead any second, unless you drink and smoke and eat deep fried dood all day everyday, which you say you dont.

hell, most of our fathers (and probably even mothers) grew up eating the most horrific shit youd ever find, aswell as smoking a pack a day and drinking cheap beer like it came from a tap, and most of them are still alive

Food is to be enjoyed, not feared

high cholesterol isn't the enemy, it's HDL/LDL ratios, triglycerides, and insulin resistance that's the main problem
