So I'm a novice 'hard gainer', and I'm alternating large-group push/pull workouts on Mon, Wed, Fri, followed up with some targeting stuff just to wear my chest triceps or biceps out (vain, I know, but its helpful to see progress). I'm also eating as much as I can stand to.My off days are torture. I want so badly to work out every day, but I'm afraid it will counteract my gains. Can I at least do something little like forearm curls on my resting day without un-doing my heavy days work?
Making gains is just as much about resting as it is working; pushing yourself into overdrive is about as counterproductive as you can get unless you're doing androgen-enemas weekly.Seriously, while your drive is commendable, you gotta take some days off. Don't deprive your body of that.
I DON'T SEE ANY SQUATS
ok, I'll find a way to chill... Thanks for the advice.
>>164622Good idea; again, its good to see drive like that in someone, but if you keep up a crazy workload, you'll start to look more like a Kenyan marathon runner than Charles Atlas. Good luck.
Why do you have off days? I lift weights 3 times a week and do muay thai the rest. I only rest on sundays.Soccer players train every day and play a match every week, that's why they are awesome.
>>164634Well the generic nigger sprinters look pretty toned, then.
>>164644Because building muscle requires rest days to allow the tissue to be rebuilt.
>>164650You can just excersise trough muscle pain though. There's no significant drawbacks other than pain.
>>164644Sometime you should look into case studies of athletes - I know a little over half a year ago I stumbled upon one which recorded the level of overtraining of different types of athletes, and soccer players were only below swimmers. It took swimmers 4 weeks of total rest before their bodies reverted to normal stress levels and were building new muscle tissue again. This is also why soccer players aren't huge.
>>164659Addendum to this post: "new muscle tissue" meaning "adding mass"
>>164661Adding mass is counter productive in most sports regardless.
>>164659Well for me, too much muscle mass means too much weight, which means i do not stay in my weight class. Also, too much weightlifting without flexibility training makes you slow and cumbersome.
>>164686there is nothing better than weightlifting for speed and flexibility.
>>164702that is, if your not doing it wrong like 85% of the people
>>164702Swimming.
