I essentially have been doing what you've been doing.
While I have a club membership with a featured gym I don't use it. I do my cardio and anaerobic exercise on my own with periodic consultation with trainers. I do use dumbbells but if I do prefer calisthenic exercises being I can do them anywhere.
Doing pretty well. In the last year I made my target weight and am toning up as I go. As long as you keep your mind on what you need to do, stay off injury and don't get ritualistic with the routine you'll do fine.
See a lot of guys who workout at home fail to set new goals and give up after a few weeks after the monotony sets in.
