There's nothing wrong with a one-armed row. There is also nothing wrong with going low in squats as long as your body can do it.
HOWEVER, there is something very wrong when people do a movement like chest flyes, except they're sitting upright with dumbbells held up over their heads, elbows to their sides as if they're doing a front double bicep pose. There is simply nothing good about this exercise. You're doing a static contraction of the delts and nothing else.
There's another one when people bend over and do shoulder flyes. It's not a bad exercise itself; but no one realizes that they're working out the rear head of the deltoid, a muscle that's about 1" wide, and they're hurting their backs to do it. Trust me, you get that muscle worked enough when you do lat pulldowns, pullups, and other rowing movements.
