Ow my foot! Anonymous
So a few weeks ago I got a glass shard in my foot. I couldnt dig it out as it was very small and I just couldnt seem to get ahold of it. I thought that it would form a would and just pop out itself, but instead the skin has completely grown over and is as thick as it is on the rest of my foot.
It stopped hurting for awhile and I basically just ignored it and sort've forgot about it, but sometimes it hurts like mad and I cant even walk.
Do I HAVE to go to the doctor and get them to dig it out? is there some type of salve I could use to draw it out?
I really dislike going to the doctor and I try to avoid going to them for frivilous reasons as I am cnd and my healthcare burden is shared so I try to not abuse the system.

Pic related, but its not my foot. i didnt bother taking a pic of my own since you literally can not tel that there is anything wrong with it without feeling the where the shard is.

I have a long splinter of wood in my hand I got when I was a kid, and the skin just grew over it. You can still see it, but it's all soft and dissolved. Idk about the glass though, it might take a long time to dissolve.

Yes, you should see your doctor immediately.

I once got a tiny shard into my hand, I left it alone for quite some time but it still hurt so I basically armed myself with sharp things and dug it out.

Better than living in pain

Same thing happened to me a couple months ago OP, I pretty much had to dig it out with a knife. Yes it will fucking hurt, but you just have to push through the pain.
Hopefully you're lucky like me and its in a callus.

Also would like to know any more on this subject. I was away on a drunken weekend and apparently glassed myself one night when i had blacked out, woke up with hands cut and glass being the obvious source. Healed now, but i didn't check for glass and fairly sure there is something in there.

On the subject, does anyone know what would happen if you theoretically got shot in the leg with a .177 air rifle and didn't get it checked out? There was a deep hole in my leg, i prodded it with scissors and it went in deep, but could not find the lead pellet. Will it dissolve over time if it was still inside my leg?

I got a shard of glass stuck deep in my foot about 3 years ago. I went to the doctor and they attempted to find it with an x-ray but failed. I was told i could either have them open a small inscision and try to find it or i could just leave it in. Doctor told me that in most cases, the glass will get covered in calous, and the pain will go away. Here i am 3 years later and i can actually feel a little bump in my foot where the glass was covered in callous but there's no pain at all.
