hey d00ds,

I've been using my Vibram Fivefingers for about a month and a half now. At first, I was able to keep proper form and propel from the ball of the foot and land with good suspension in my feet. Lately, however, that has become painful.

My first question is, are my feet adapting or am I doing it wrong?

Secondly, a few hours ago I went jogging around the neighborhood and, stupidly, I allowed myself to land flat-footed the whole way. It didnt hurt at the time but now my ankles are swollen.

Will I be okay? And should I take a break from running?

get running shoes you stupid troll

Look into pose technique running if you haven't already.

Running shoes create as many problems as they claim to address.

running barefoot on sports grounds anyone?
>> Anonymous
>>450463
Because humans totally evolved over the last million or so years with running shoes in mind, right?
>> Anonymous
How fucking fail can someone be when they fail at FUCKING RUNNING? God damn kill yourself.

we didnt evolve for pants either, ditch those.

I read an article on this very subject. Your feet need to adapt to those types of shoes. You have more than likely adapted to the running style of a shoe where you land on the ball of your foot or your heel versus these new shoes where you are supposed to lad more on the toe side. The article stated that you should not start out hard, I mean think about it, if you are 24, you feet, legs, back etc. have 24 years of experience running on tennis/running shoes. So starting a whole new thing will take some time to adapt to.

if you want to follow the stupid brand and run "barefooted" at least do some fcken research, running barefooted is not bal-to-toe its toe only.
and anyway if you want to tun barefooted, then run barefooted. what you are doing is running in overpriced slippers.

toe only? welcome blood blisters and terrible painful toes the rest of your life

you're suppose to land mid-foot, the best way I can describe it is when you land your ball of foot takes most of the impact while spreading it around the inside and outside middle portion of your foot while your heel taps the ground but not supporting any or little weight.

I've been running in VFF's for over 6 months, hiked at least 20 mountains and one time a 15 mile trail with 4000' feet elevation and deelevation with a 30# pack in one day on mostly ROCK, my feet didn't hurt at all the next day only my hamstrings were really tight for the next 2 days.

I have the POSE running book, have looked at it but never read it, I just ran in mine for a few months and it just clicked in my mind how to run perfectly in them over long distances.

Alright, after 5 minutes of searching for the truth in POSE Method of Running

Page 57, "The heel of the support leg is slightly higher than the ball of the foot and may even lightly touch the ground, buy the weight of the body always rests only on the front part of the foot and not on the toes"

Why you all hating on these win slip-ons?
I'm sure you're all tough shit who don't mind sprinting on broken beer bottles and syringes barefooted, but I'd rather get the benefit of being barefooted without actually being so.
These aren't actually over a 100 bucks though are they?
>> Anonymous
>>451504
Right, they're some goddamn shoes. I don't know why shoe faggots are hating. It's not like their fancy shoes didn't cost more than this modest 90 bucks.
>> Anonymous
plus, i'd like to see you go barefoot in <30 degree weather, let alone snow
>> Anonymous
>>451502
>rests only on the front part of the foot and not on the toes
damn the author of this book has some mutated feet for sure. fron/back part of foot = ball/toe. show me how you'll manage to stand only on toes

you realize that you can just watch where you step, right?
>>451534

You must be a slow ass sprinter if you have time to analyse every patch of ground you run on.
>> Anonymous
>>451571
you must be real dumbass if you need to "analyse" the fucking ground. what so complicated about the ground, that it needs "analysing"?
do you like run around park and like "oh damn i stepped into puddle, oh op now shit, oh fuck i falling down the open sewer..."
>> Anonymous
>>451582

Not that guy, but little things like AIDS-infected hypodermic needles and shards of glass/metal aren't easily visible when you're fucking RUNNING. Goddamn, some of us live in the city, you know, we can't have impeccable ground to run on.

>>451553
Or the opposite where I live. Try walking barefoot when it's 110 average during the summer, in a place known for being sunny constantly. It will give you severe goddamn burns on your feet, even running 20ft will give you a serious hot foot. Not to mention landscaping consists mostly of rocks, cactus, and "shade" trees that don't really provide much shade.

Yeah I'll just go run barefoot and come back with severe burns on my feet and about 20 sharp rocks sticking out the bottom.
>> Anonymous
i run barefoot. :/
>> Anonymous
>>451610
Oh yeah, also plenty of scorpions and the ground is dry and solid as a rock. BUT NO I'LL JUST RUN BAREFOOT LOL
>> Anonymous
>>451593
how can you not fuckin see glass and metal? no really its behind me
and btw to avoid aid needles try not running in gheto crack house, it help a lot
>>451610
humans get used to that temperature, you would knew that if you wouldnt have been such a sisy faggot and walk every god damn second of your life in shoes. and you pretty much get used to walking on rocks too, and you must be a severely retarded to step on cactus...

anyway you may make up 100 more excuses to run in those gay ass slippers, if you wouldnt have been such bithces you would've done what all real men do - run fcken barefooted.
>> Anonymous
Running barefoot/Vibram/etc has just as many problems as running with typical running shoes. Typical running shoes cause knee problems, barefoot running cause ankle problems. Running barefoot replaces all the impact that would go to your knees with regular shoes and transfers it over to your ankle joints. So take your pick, do you want an ankle injury or knee injury?
>> Anonymous
>>451570
They keep your fucking feet warm. What the hell do you think?

>>451682
What makes you think it all goes to your ankle joint?

> Laboratory studies show that the plantar arch alone returns at least 17 percent of the energy of impact. Running shoes have largely replaced our arches, but they are neither as effective nor as durable. Barefoot runners can clearly do as well as shoed runners, but it takes time to develop the strength in the foot to use our natural arch fully.”

Bottom line: what kind of faggot says that doing the thing you specifically evolved to do is a bad idea? It's like if you got a headache from thinking harder than usual, and concluded that thinking is bad for you. Actually, that probably happens to you a lot.
>> Anonymous
how about not fucking running, drag a sled or push your car down your street, or hike, or row, or cycle
>> Anonymous
>>451680

Slivers of glass and metal, asshat. Also, needles aren't just confined to crackhouses anymore.

I'm not a faggot that advocates running in slippers, but goddamn, pull your head out of your ass.
>> Anonymous
>>451680
Fuck I hope you step on something awful hawkeye
>> Anonymous
this has probably already been said but these shoes are not for running in.
this is the opinion of a long time runner with to many miles under his feet to count.
but shoes like these are jokes, if you really want to develop form practice for exercises and run your last mile barefoot on the grass around the outfield of a track barefoot...
but invest in some nice running shoes. i suggest asics.
buy a decent pair where them in and in a few months on solid running you will notice some shushing patters where you land, this will indicate to you where you need to improve on with your form. and also when purchasing new shoes will narrow down exactly what you need once you learn to read the wrinkles.

If you can see a predator that far away, you wouldn't run 20 miles, you'd run to the nearest tree, more like 1-5 miles.

>>452485
Not true, and besides the point, running is a massive caloric expenditure. You can walk at a neat 4-6 miles an hour with minimal effort and cover great distance, or you can run at 10 miles an hour for 2 hours with a lot of effort to get there slightly faster. Hunters rarely gather enough food to justify that amount of continuous exertion for long periods of times.

You only need to learn to run because you have always been using shoes. You can circumvent this by always using your Vibram Fivefingers or even better, nothing. Start walking to and from places you need to go. Start doing whatever kind of complex motions while standing that can be done barefooted. Like sign up on a karate class, it doesn't fucking matter what it is, just get your feet used to not being supported while in straining positions with difficult balance.

You don't need to think to learn to run, you just need to force your feet to learn how to move for a second time.
