How Much? Anonymous
So /fit/ ive gotta ask, how much is enough?

I've recently just started doing a sport for the first time in 5 years and i plan on bulking up. But as of right now im very weak but i can push through and do the sets you guys have been talking about, but when will i start to plateau and can i ramp up the set amount early on and get more results faster?

tl;dr How much benifit do i get from doing one more or a dozen more sets of any exercise?

About a year ago I had not done any physical activity in over 2 years so I was at a peak of weakness, now I am at the peak of my strength since I have worked out weekly since then.

Anyways here is what I recommend.

first off get your body used to moving, do a few pushups / situps a day, the best thing to do is.

Do as many pushups as you can (till to tired), wait 30 seconds and try to do half of that, wait 30s do half of that exc. Same with situps.

When you hit the gym, start the weights small and slowly work them up to heavy enough so that you can do 10 reps with them until you are too tired. Remeber that more does not mean better, your arms can only heal so fast, and at your level you really cannot do enough damage to give them a serious workout, so start small and work your way up. just do 10 reps of a weight you can only do 10 reps with, do it 3 times until. Also I suggest using google and reading info about doing things right exc and what workout methods are available.

Depending on the muscle group I stay usually within 12-18 sets. The optimal muscle growth range is 8-12 reps per set, less for strength, more for endurance

My last arms workout was
Incline db curl 6,6,8,10,12
Close grip curl 12,10,8,6
Cross body ham. 6,6,8,10,12
Conc. Curl 10,8

Do not overtraining but if you do want to try a good high volume training method lookup charles poliquin's german volume training, shits so hard

if you have an "arms day", you're already failing incredibly hard.

Read this, several thousand times.

My favourite bicep exercises? Weighted chinups (supinated, shoulder width) and one arm dumbell rows.

My favourite tricep exercises? Military and bench press, weighted dips.

Oh, did I mention I also have good lats, upper back, chest and shoulders from this? But I guess I'm not cool till I curl, amirite?
