Hey /fit/
I just started running on a treadmill this week. I was wondering how long it would take before i start seeing results if i run 4-5 times a week for 20 minutes.

p.s. i am 6'0" and about 170 pounds.

170 isnt overweight for your height...

what kind of results are you looking for?

You will feel like shit the first week. Just get through with it. After that first week, you will feel great.

tred mills will make u feel sad and depressed

go to ur nearest forest preserve and u will feel true freedom maxing out at the side of a field and lake maybe some trees either way try not to lose interest
staying healthy and daily exercise will keep your mind in shape as well

take it from me im on my pc at 3:42 in the morning

yup perfectly stable perfectly normal *hehehehe nervice laugh*

A course run would be much mentally easier I think, but here's my plan and it's worked for me (highschooler here, 5'7" at 148 pounds, 5.2% body fat, go wrestling):

1/2 a mile easy and stretch (stretching is always important, at the very least it starts blood flow and makes it easier to self motivate yourself), then run 2.5-3 miles, and finish with an easy cool down of 1/2 mile. Do this 5 days a week even if you're sore, the sore-er the better and means you aren't stretching well enough. 3 miles should take you idealy 19 minutes, no more than 22, so record your performance and notice the change in performance.

if there was anyplace that even remotely resembled that near my dorm, i would be outside, running, every day. Unfortunately, i don't, so i will just stick to my nice big metal wheel.

PROTIP: Being sore has nothing to do with stretching.

With regards to jogging, is the pace of jogging (fast vs slow) say it is consistent, going to have any different effects over the long term. Which would you recommend for newbies like me?

Run at a pace so you can keep doing it for 30-45 minutes.
When you improve, increase your pace.
It's not rocket science...

But if i just started, would running maybe 10 to 20 mins helps, cos stamina is not strong or is 30 mins the minimum target?

As long as you keep running until you are really fucking tired, you'll improve.
Just don't be like "Oh, I'm getting a little sweaty, I should just call it a day".

This man is absolutely right. I can't stand treadmills, there is no maneuverability or sense stimulation whatsoever. Also, since I don't train in a gym - I have more important things to spend my money on that treadmills and bikes, like kettlebells and bear scare weapons.

Pic related, my home.

fucking beautiful, man. I live in pig disgusting Harbin, China. I can't run outside --nothing but roads and ice and throngs of Chinamen. It's a treadmill or nothing for me.

Thanks for the running advice given above. I'm going to start tomorrow morning!

I have one question: do you run before or after lifting weights? Does it even matter?

Oh yeah, I'm not the OP

I would recommend trying for longer than 20 minutes. I believe it takes about 30 minutes of steady exercise before you start burning some fat. Also with the running before and after lifting it depends. To gain mass, go for weights first. To tone, do it after the run, but use lower weights and more reps.
