Creatine question Ultranic
Hi /fit/

I have some questions about creatine.

Ordinarily I would mix a spoonful of creatine with my protein powder and mix it in a blender with a cup full of water before going to the gym (or sometimes after if I forgot to do it before going). A friend of mine said that was a bad idea because it wont be absorbed properly in my body and also that I should be taking my creatine separately with something that has some sugar in it.

I tried blending creatine in with orange juice and cranberry juice but it never dissolves properly (usually there is some left over in the bottom of my cup or blender) and the dry chalky taste is twice as apparent than when its mixed in with my protein powder mix.

My question is, how should I be taking my creatine? Whats the best way to have it absorbed? And should I be taking my protein and creatine separately or together? Thanks

Not supposed to put it in orange juice. On the back of my tub it says non acidic juice like grape.

grape juice works fine, I'm not sure what kind of creatine you are taking but mine is just regular creatine mono.

First off I'll answer the question posed in this thread, but I'll hit some quick links to help prove these anti-supplement quacks for what they are.

Firstly, from what I've heard, mixing creatine with acidic juices may inhibit your body from absorbing it as easily. As for time, once per day at any time is sufficient. Unlike protein, your body is not sitting around waiting for you to inject some creatine into the system to help repair some major muscle damage. Your best bet is to maintain your current system if it's working for you. Remember to never take it for more than 8 weeks at a time.

More on the actual effects of creatine next.

take the creatine and all your other shit AFTER you exercise. This is because when you are exercising, your muscle fibres tear and rip, so when you consume your mass-building substances, these will repair and fill-in these tears, making you more beefy lawwwl.

Creatine does many things. It bolsters the body's storage capacity of phosphocreatine (PCr.) PCr is a rapid release energy storage the body uses to fuel muscles before it turns to longer term energy sources. Creatine dramatically increases the storage of PCr - http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/DSH/creatine.html

Water retention is another major component. Creatine helps your body retain more water in and along the muscles which improve lubrication and flow of nutrients.

Creatine also increases the production of satellite cells which are the building blocks of myofibrillar hypertrophy (mass building muscle tearing). When a muscle is torn from high weight exercise it creates myofibrillar hypertrophy. Your body sends satellite cells to the site to create new 'myofibrils' which layer to give more muscle mass. Creatine greatly increases the production of these cells and may be linked to increasing the activity of dormant satellite cells. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creatine_supplements

This is true with protein, but creatine can be taken at any time without adverse affects.

As a note, Creatine is not fucking d-bol. Creatine can be found in meat.

Thank you for all the helpful answers.

Sometimes I feel like my friends have no idea what they are talking about, so I'm glad I came here.
