So /fit/ it's time for another anon to man up and stop failing at life, first step is my health of course but I need some advice.
Firstly, OATZ, whats the deal, why so serious/beneficial?
And diet in general, I'm going to get basic, I have the will power to eat nothing but dust and water everyday if necissary but I realise that to healthily lose fat/gain muscle starvation is less than ideal, what percentages or amounts of what should I be trying to stick to in my diet, what are essentials etc?
Also would 3days cardio/3days weights etc and one day of rest be a good schedule? in blocks or alternating days, and how many hours a day, I can't do HIIT all too often without fucking with an old injury so it seems a good 3~ hours a day is going to be about right?
I don't want to be "buff/toned/spot reducing" I'm in it for the health and well being more than the look/numbers so as long as it keeps me fit I don't care if I'm not bursting at the seems with muscles or at some specific weight/bmi/bf number etc. I'm 6'3" 185lbs and in no way overweight/obese/tubby or anything, nor scrawny and desperate to be STRONGMANLOL. Just getting in shape, help a soon to be /fit/izen out?

Pic related, it's what /fit/ actually believes.

OATZ are good for you. They are fuel. The carbs are good, unlike sugar.

Read all the primary and supp material. Your going to lift and lift hard. You might want to run on the days you lift, like before you workout. You need to leave your body time to rest.

Who is in the OPs pic? That's a tranny?

OP: Oats are mentioned as the #1 best food to eat in Ton Venuto's book about best/worst foods to eat to lose fat. Let me paste the text here:

If I could only choose one source of complex, starchy carbohydrates for a fat loss
program, this would be it! Oatmeal is the one carbohydrate food that virtually 100%
of all bodybuilders and fitness models eat on a daily basis. What makes it so great?
Well, although it’s a starchy carbohydrate, oatmeal has a nice balance between
carbs, protein and good fat. A half a cup contains 3 grams of fat, 27 grams of carbs
and 5 grams of protein. The low glycemic index, combined with the presence of
protein and fat makes oatmeal a very slowly released carb – exactly what you’re
looking for when you want to get lean.

Make sure you choose the all-natural oats; either old-fashioned oats (such as
Quaker) or the quick oats. Stay away from the sweetened and or flavored oatmeal
packets. Oatmeal is delicious with natural (sugar free) applesauce and cinnamon. Or,
try some crushed walnuts or flaxseeds in your morning oats, which will give your
“porridge” a nice crunchy texture while adding those desirable “good fats” we all
need. For a complete meal, try a couple scoops of Vanilla Praline flavored protein
powder in your oatmeal. If you get tired of oatmeal, there are plenty of other cooked
whole grain cereals in the “oatmeal family.” Look in your local health food store (or a
gourmet supermarket) for barley, wheat, titricale, rye, oat bran and flax cereals (or
a multi grain combination of the above).

The picture is Shawn Johnson, american olympic gymnast and the object of many channers sexual desire for a multitude of disturbing reasons.
And thank you for the advices thus far, time to stock up on some OATZ then, seems logical enough. I was leaning more towards cardio and less lifting etc but starting strength seems worthwhile so I might shift my focus and see how things are shaping up after 3-6-9-12 months respectively, many thanks.

I had an opportunity to talk to Medhi of Stronglifts - and like you was devoting much more attention to cardio than lifting, with the intent to lose weight, then lift up. He said that was wrong, that during those heavy cardio sessions you start to lose muscle mass and are defeating the purpose. Instead of balls to the walls cardio, do medium cardio and a good lifting session. Then you get the best of both worlds - including the increased metabolism from the weight workout and the long term burn from the increased fuel needs for the new muscles.

Others have mentioned Starting Strength, it is well acclaimed here. Stronglifts I hear is similar and different. I heard about it first so that is the book I read to start my path.

Also, every so often people start a thread on different oats recipes. For a while I was eating two meals of oats a day, and then I hit an oatz wall. I am back down to one a day.

Shawn Johnson -- another reason why you shouldn't let your sons eat too much processed food. All the environmental estrogens and shit have made him very effite. Hopefully he can grow out of it.

starvation being bad is a myth. look up intermittent fasting, theres many different ways to do it. eating 6 meals a day is too time consuming and restrictive. you can try eat stop eat lifestyle where you fast 24 hours straight once or twice a week, you can even do workouts during the fasts. open your mind, you want health, intermittent fasting is a great option. oats should always be eaten with protein. look up crossfit too, its great for developing functional strength, its the workout that special forces and swat teams and firefighters are adopting.
