Dear /fit/, I don't really expect you to know-- I was in a car crash a few years ago...and as a rather unfortunate result, I have a herniated L5. I'll translate...that means my smallest invertebrate disk is pinching the nerves in my spine. So...my question...what are the chances that this has stunted my growth? Should I resign myself to being 5'11 and forfeit any hopes of reaching 6'0? I'm 19, and I haven't grown in forever...I think I'm entitled to at least one more growth-spurt within the next year or so; also, to whom it may apply, when did you stop growing ?

tl;dr-- I am 19 and have herniated disk...have I stunted my growth?

I just realized I didn't even answer your question. But then again I don't know the answer to it. A quick search on Google seems to show that your growth won't be stunted.

A lot of things affect your growth. I'd expect chronic pain to stunt you. However if you are growing it's not your spine anymore but the epiphyseal plates of your femurs growing so it only has to do with your hormones and legs.

Hmm, thank you /fit/-- and yeas, I realize I'm lucky to even be 5'11...but seeing 14 year-old freshmen who are taller than me makes me rage hard. Jealousy...oh, well-- I'll give myself another year before I accept it
