HIIT is weaksauce Anonymous
sup /fit/

so i bought into /fit/ and /fit/ advice for a long time, i did SQUATZ, ate OATZ, and poo'd myself everytime i went on a HIIT session. For the longest time i thought my skillz and knowlege were 9000 as i felt the calories burn sprinting my ass off on the treadmill. Surely, this is the pinnacle of intensity and unrivaled efficiency.

well i tried out swimming today, and compared to doing some breaststrokes, hiit is complete weaksauce. after doing like 10 laps i thought i was going to drown and i wanted to hurl and blackout at the same time. Fucking doing deads @ twice my bodyweight while on a full stomach was nothing compared to swimming 50 yards back-to-back. So all you /fit/fags, fuck TIMBO, stop doing HIIT, and swim some laps.
>> Anonymous
Dunno if you are trolling, but as somebody who's never touched OATZ or done SQUATZ and laugh at people who say HIIT will burn 600% more calories during the day, and as somebody who has swam 2km every day for the past 6 years I'll say that I think you're exaggerating.

Swimming is great for building up to a certain level, and if you have a trainer (a tether) you can resistance swim to build up a bit more, but you'll never look like a body builder. Still, I'm happy with my physique, I have a year-round tan and my lungs are in good condition. I'm the picture of good health, so I don't see any real reason to start body building (apart from the bench and free weight exercises I've always done), apart from vanity.

if you realize why your post is retarded on your own I will give you a pice of cake, you'd like that wouldn't you fatty
>> Anonymous
>>396189
well i was obviously exaggerating, it was to get a point across

>>396193
how are those curls treating you
>> Anonymous
i agree with OP
swimming kicks my ass
>> Anonymous
>>396199

fair enough. To me, swimming has always been the best exercise. You look and feel fit, you can eat a shitload and still be at 7% bodyfat. You get broad shoulders and a V shape without looking like a bodybuilder, and people can tell you're a swimmer just by looking at you. Then in the summer if you are near the beach you've got surfing, which is just as good as swimming but a lot more fun to do.

>>396199
no cake for you in other words. Swimming is kicking your ass because you are not used to it and it puts demands on your muscles that you are not used to, thus your post is entirely fucking retarded.

Also, swimming is cool, interval laps will kick your ass and is great for fat loss, this does not however change the fact that your post was utterly retarded
>> Anonymous
shitt i need to do this

i made a thread just today about how running was too high impact for me and gave me tremendous pain in my jaw after sprinting and shit

hella gonna swim tomorrow
>> Anonymous
>>396214

swimming is low impact, but you'll notice a different problem, instead of your calves tightening up, all that kicking will eventually cause your calves to relax and then cramp (that's at least 30 minutes into it) which is a huge pain in the ass, especially getting out of the pool, then waking up in the middle of the night to find one or both has locked up and just wanting to scream/die

where in my post did I state I was used to swimming laps? That my muscles weren't used to its demands?

If you have any reading comprehension skills you'd realize that MAYBE why I pointed out swimming was more beneficial to HIIT was because of the reasons that you just stated, aka basic goddamn common sense when it comes to fitness? what are you going to tell me next - to drink some whey protein after my workout? Believe me, I'm sure you have a great reason for it to, because you know, 'I should have some cake since I'm so utterly retarded' .

I swear to fucking god....

did OP learn to swim today? i'm pretty sure most people realize swimming is hard work right around the first time they ever swim
>> Anonymous
thanks for reminding me to start mixing my cardio up OP and start swimming a fuckload

fuck year

too bad i just got lasik like a month ago, ill have to buy some supar tight goggles
>> Anonymous
i wonder what's the best swim style if i want to keep at a 30 minute swim?

or should I just go for HIIT style swimming with intervals
>> Anonymous
Well it shouldn't take too long to get used to swimming. I usually swim 400m freestyle, then 100m breaststroke, do that 3 times totaling 1.5km, then 300m of backstroke, 100m butterfly and finish with two slow laps of freestyle then breastroke. You should be able to swim at a pace of about 2km/hr or 1.25mile/hour in less than a month. You'll lose both fat and a bit of muscle if you are swimming every day, but as soon as you take a break for a few days you'll notice your muscle mass will increase quite a bit.

nah, I learned to swim pretty early in middle school and occasionally swam during high school, but basically stopped when I got to college 2 years ago. Today went to the pool - thought doing some laps was going to be like jog in the park.

lol

stick to freestyle and breaststroke, about 65/35%. Also, there is a point where doing extra work of pushing with your arms will not make you swim much faster, but will build up your muscles. Then when you decide to sprint you'll notice the easier strokes (the most efficient for energy done vs. speed) are just a breeze. A tether also helps with that.

So I'd advise that half the time you swim slow and heavy, following through with each stroke and pushing as much water back as possible. You'll feel it the next morning. The other half just do regular strokes at a faster pace.

OP IS RETARDED

HIIT isn't a fucking exercise you noob. It a method of exercising. You can to it on a treadmill, in a pool, on stairs. You can swim HIIT if you want.

The sensation of burning isn't an indicator of effectiveness.

But by all means keep swimming fatty.

You guys must be niggers, swimming is easy. Lifting heavy ass weights on the other hand is hard. Stop being niggers and lift some iron, you little assholes.
>> Anonymous
I'm swimming as my method of primary weight loss/toning. I do 6 hours a week. I try and spread the sessions out so I build more muscle.

It is tiring but it isn't THAT hard. I'll swim 5km per session. Mixture of breast, front crawl and butterfly.

What has been said is true. Keep a constant pace, occasionally I go all out. Occasionally I swim at a relaxed pace. Around 40% of the time I try and keep it fast, steady and powerful with good reach and form and follow through.

A TREADMILL? THERE'S YOUR PROBLEM, YOU'RE A FUCKING PUSSY.

fuck these 'conventional' means

DO THIS

-push truck up a slight incline. rest when exhausted, then continue
-do farmers walks/sandbag carries/zercher walks around track. drop that fucker when gassed, pick it up again and try to make it as far as possible, REPEAT
-heavy KB swings

you faggots make me sick, even doing HIIT, you still seek the 'path of least resistance'

fail
>> Anonymous
fat ass OP doggy paddled all those laps im sure. fat motherfucker i was on the swim team and went to city for 100m, ill challenge any of you fucking losers

true

also why "HIIT" can only be prescribed to trainees exhibiting significant "will" for change, effort, and progress

and why it is simply fucking laughable in terms of general population usage, same with squats. most people are so up shit's creek that they need years of 'pre/rehab' before they even can begin BASIC EXERCISE MODALITIES safely and effectively...
>> Anonymous
>>396414
How, then, would one become excellent? How do you develop significant "will" for change, effort, and progress?

that is an internalized process

by even having to ask, you do not have it.

better said "if you have to ask, you wouldn't understand"

Swimming is fucking hard if you didn't train prior. I went to a friendly waterpolo game with a guy who's a in a soccer team who's running around for 90 whole minutes without a pause and even he was fucking DEAD after about 5 minutes swimming back and forth

soccer players are all faggots though.

All sports players are faggots bra, let's just hit the gym and do some SQUATZ bra

Then I'll just keep working at it.

Well I knew that much.

OK.

You're so informative Anonymous. Enjoy getting a little ego boost backing up the excellent.
