I was eating dinner today and my friend pointed out that the hummus on my plate had more protein in an equal portion of meat. Is this true? And is it a healthy replacement for meat?

Since then I've been eating enormous amounts of hummus at every meal.

I have no idea, but I love me some hummus. I make it myself, and customize it as I see /fit/. Sometimes with roasted red peppers, horseradish, dill....whathaveyou.

Beans and Legumes are the healthiest alternative to meats. Chick Peas, the main ingredient in Hummus belongs to the Bean and Legume family. They are loaded with protein. Try this: mash one can of water-packed tuna in a bowl with a cup of chick peas or hummus, add some Mrs. Dash and you have a post workout power snack.
