I personally do steady state cardio for 60 mins, but that is because I'm still heavy, and I plan on using HIIT in 5 weeks or so once my body has completely adapted to this. Um, if you're leaner, try HIIT, stick it out. You're supposed to start with a 5 minute warm up, then do 4 minute cycle (1:1), then a 5 minute cool down. Then work your way up from there until you can handle 15 minutes.
Regular cardio will suffice if you really aren't getting any progress, however 85% is too high of a heart rate for a 45-60 minute workout.
To be honest, the benefits of HIIT over SSC are minimal...
