Hey, /fit/.

I'm a hard gainer in my early twenties. I've been fairly scrawny my whole life, since my teens I've been struggling to try to gain some weight. Inconsistent exercising, half-assed high protein dieting, and so on.

I'm in another one of my determined and motivated phases. Summer is around the corner and I want to get in shape. So, I've been working out consistently and passionately for the past couple of weeks and I've been downing a bunch of disgusting whey protein shakes. I feel like I've made a little bit of progress, but it always feels like that at first, then I get nowhere and eventually give up.

I've decided to try creatine this time around. I tried it once in the past and noticed absolutely nothing as a result, so I'm skeptical.

I'm taking one full serving (7 capsules) of creatine monohydrate each day with my protein shake.

So, that's what I'm doing right now. Anyone have advice for my situation? I'm hoping this board will help me stay motivated and reach my goals. Pic related, by the way. It's me.

Thanks for the board, Moot. I'll try to contribute back as much as I can. I know my situation is basically a vanity sort of thing, and there are a lot of people here who have more serious needs. I think this board could help improve a lot of lives.

you arent eating enough.
all the creatine in the world wont do shit if you dont eat

This is probably true.

However, my problem is that I'm really just not all that hungry all that often. It's hard to force myself to keep eating when I don't have any specific cravings.

Any advice on a good way to increase my intake other than "eat moar you pussy?"

force yourself to eat.
i had the same problem. once you are training hard enough and stretch your stomach a bit you will get hungry

Consume more, you vagina.

Well, if you can't eat more, try and eat better then? And eat vitamins, that shit is essential.

What kinda workout do you do by the way? Might be that you need to vary it with something more fun from time to time to keep your motivation up.

So you actually want to gain muscle mass right? First off, you don't need to eat so much volume wise, eat more calories. Keep track of how much you are burning when you exercise and how much you are taking in. You should always be taking in *more* than you turn. If you really want to gain mass, you need constant intake of protein and you need to work out until your muscles literally fail. That is what promotes growth best.

It takes a lot of time to build muscle, years. Be patient though, and enjoy increased energy and health as you work out. If you get a bit of a belly, cut back for a while and focus on cardio to lose it, and then go back to building mass again.

how much creatine is that?

as far as i know, hard gainers need to lift only 1-3 days a week. any more than 3 can be detrimental. also you shouldn't do much cardio. and make sure to eat eat eat healthy stuff.

just remember, that even to people that aren't hard-gainers, it's still not easy to put on a lot of muscle. that shit takes time and dedication no matter who you are

Should not be a problem as vegetarian.
Eggs, soy products, wheat etc.

go sign up at a gym, you'll never get significant progress doing what you're doing.

You need to focus on the more complex lifts such as: squats, deadlifts, lunges, bench presses, dips, pull ups, rows.

You should go to gym.
It does not cost really that much and with the price you'll get much more versatile excercise.
Don't forget to train your legs; big muscles and they can grow quite a bit = weight gain.

This is a good point, my legs are something I've totally neglected, and it shows. I have horrible chicken legs right now. It wasn't so bad back in high school when I used to run around playing Frisbee all the time and shit, but right now my legs are downright embarrassing.

Going to a gym is something I've been fighting against for ages, but it's getting to the point where I should probably just admit defeat and do it.

How bad is it to, like, get a personal trainer and such? Is that prohibitively expensive for anyone that isn't a big star or something? To be perfectly honest, I don't know shit about lifting. The bit I do know has been gathered from shitty websites and such. I'm probably doing everything wrong.

try race biking.
You'll get legs like Atlas and don't have to go to the gym.

buy that book it will be the best investment you ever make.

you only need a personal trainer for a couple days to make sure you're doing the lifts correctly.

You could just start walking more, take stairs instead of elevators, get a rope and do some skipping, and squats.
Just using your legs more in general should actually do the trick.
Going to the gym isn't always necessary either, Method Natural is another option, or Parkour, but for that you will need to train you legs and back a bit. Or preferably a lot actually.

Change your diet, you can trick your body if you eat really high calorie food (no sugar, oats, nuts and seeds are incredible for this), and you have to train your body to eat more, the first weeks its awkward and unpleasant but after that your body will demand more food trust me, i had the same problem like you one year ago.
