Sweating Anonymous
Hi /fit/ I have a question, I came across some tv show that was showing a whole bunch of people training for something or other. A lot of them were wearing sweatshirts even though it was clearly warm there and there was one segment that showed someone looked like they were wearing a sealed plastic suit for their training seemingly to make him sweat even more. It showed him taking it off and tonns of water comming out.

So I'm just generally curious, what was the intended benefit of that?

They say you can lose more fat this way; It will be very little amounts but the general thought is that it does work.

There are even treatments in spas where they wrap you up in cling film and imply this will help your weight loss.

They could have been fighters training for a weigh in; otherwise, they're gimps.

They sweat excessively to drop a few pounds of water weight before a weigh-in.

This is common for wrestlers and boxers trying to stay within their weight class. A guy who's in the 150 and under weight class might be 149 at the official weight in, but he'll show up to the event at 155, since more mass is usually an advantage

You drop a lot of weight really quick by doing this, but it's mostly just water weight. Wrestlers do this all the time before meets to make their weight class.

I doubt many people try to cut weight that way since they can just do it by sitting in the sauna.

If anyone forces their body to sweat excessively, they need to make sure they're getting enough salt back in their system to compensate.

Ok, you can go sit in a sauna and sweat in there.

Or you can go to a place to work-out, turn the heat up to 90F, throw on sweatshirts / sweatpants and do plyometrics / continuous aerobic exercises consecutively for an hour or two.

Personally i've done both, and the 2nd one WILL lose you more weight right before weigh-in...

...after which you go and chow down and drink a gallon of water and suck in a world of sustenance!

Ahh! The glories of making weigh-in! Have to love the first morsels of food afterwards!

Human body burns at guess what? 250 degrees Celsius. Wearing a sweatshirt in summer is fucking pointless and will just dehydrate you (only need this to make a certain class). For normal training it's absolutely worthless.

I mean body fat.

its useless and stupid, all you are doing is dehydrating yourself. the only reason to do it is if you were a wrestler or something trying to make their stupid weigh in
