i would love to do the strong life 5x5, looks very effective, but i honestly don't have access to alot of weight lifting equipment.
My goal as of now is to run 3 miles, non-stop or few breaks.

Fair enough. In that case, do a lot of what the Marines will have you do: pushups, situps, chinups, etc.

Marine here. People hate what they ain't, surprising considering we're the ones protecting their asses every day.

Marine Corps is all about moving yourself and your gear for long distances at high speed over any terrain. Get good base strength (pullups for PFT) then worry about bodyweight/muscular endurance - crossfit

Crossfit.com should only be used by those in the military/fire/LEO - not the gym fairies who have latched onto it...

marine corps is also about dying in the name of politicians after selfish goals, while getting paid a minimal wage and living with years of mental scarring afterwards.

enjoy your shrink bills in the future, fucking moron.

Instead of situps do bicycle crunches. It's harder and you'll have a bigger advantage when you actually start doing situps. I can do 31 bicycle crunches and ENDLESS situps. Huge difference between the two.

haha yea yea, I don't do it for the paycheck and I haven't gone crazy yet. I'm a much stronger person mentally than you could ever hope to be.

When I do get out, I'll take my degree and connections from my top tier university and go right into management/consulting for my pick of quite a few Fortune 500 companies - enjoy shining my shoes in the future, fucking moron.

I hate these threads so much. they reak of underage b&. The only people planning to join the military in 2 years are 15-16 year olds who assume they'll be tougher then nails. Besides that, two years is a lot of time. If you cycle workouts every 6 weeks, that's 16 different workouts. That two years of working out hard. You can't just ask shit questions like "I'VE GOT TWO YEARS, HOW DO I BECOME AN MARINE"

Start a well-rounded fitness regime and work from there. Google a good bodyweight one or use the British Armies site.

PFT = Grease the groove with pullups (not chinups, I gtg pullups for like 10 reps and almost got 20 chins on a pft), do basic gay endurance ab shit for situps, mix it up it doesn't matter just test yourself every once and a while and make sure you get a hundred. Once you get the hundred mark maintain it but honestly situps are the gayest fucking shit ever and just end up tightening the shit out of your hip flexors. Run a lot, run a ton, then run some more. You won't need it in bootcamp for anything but the PFT but depending on your job you could end up running upwards of 30-40 miles a week.

You will have to do the CFT by the time you get there, go to military.com and find the video. Look at all the parts and practice them, if you don't have partner you could make a sandbag but honestly it's pretty abc shit and don't need to go that far unless you just want a badass heavy seabag to throw around.

The excuses about not having gear is pretty much bullshit. If you want to join the mother fucking Marines, I would go ahead and main the fuck up and figure out a way to pain for a gym membership. You having nothing to represent now but when you get in you will have the burden of representing the Marines and in turn America. I know a lot of Marines who arn't swole and I know ones who are like goddamn oaks but if you arn't strong you're doing it wrong.

I'm enlisting in January. My dad went to OCS and my gran dad was a colonel in the Army. They both prefer it if I went to college first, but it's whatever. I've been working out on a regular basis and am nearly in the shape I think I need to be in to do well. I'll be sure to check out crossfit, so thank you for posting that whoever did.

I haven't finished my spelling for marines MCI, mah bad bout dat dwags. Man and also Pay.

You're not going to be a scout sniper, a recon marine, or anything onpar; You won't fire weapons regularly, you won't blow anything up; You won't drive a tank, you won't kill anyone; You won't get strong, you won't get big; You will not be a good officer, in fact, you will most likely not fulfill the contract and have to pay back the money. Don't expect to join the Marines, get out, and expect to be able to live in the wild, eat snakes, and get into high speed espionage drama scenes. It's nothing like you expect because it's a dream right now, it LOOKS damn good. You can expect to look good if you take care of your uniform.

Remember you're the one running, you're the one firing, you're the one carrying that shit. It's not some kind of fucking super saiyan transformation that happens on graduation day at bootcamp. If you want an opportunity to get on some handles on some cool weapons once in your life and you want someone to hold you accountable then go ahead and join. Recruiters lie, talk to a Marine if you want the truth. Talk to one who is in saying "fuck this shit" and one who is out saying "it was worth it" and form an opinion of your own.

What in the fuck are you talking about? Crossfit isn't a fucking AT-4, it's a training program for people who can't think up their own shit or don't have time to. If you were smart you'd design your own program instead of latching onto the bandwagon there, DevilDog.

wow fuck you and your devildog usage. if he could complete the workout of the days and run long distances then he'd be in way better shape then the vast majority of the marines ive ever met. and ive met thousands in the desert and some here in gtmo too.

a lot of marines get out of bootcamp and then all they rely on is organized pt to keep them in shape, which is never enough.

OP, dont listen to this clown. crossfit is perfect for going to boot camp. actually its overkill. youll see when you get there. therell be fatties there that are a fucking wad of dough and the great fucking military machine still manages to pump out marines.

You had it pretty well right at first, then turned into a huge faggot.

Well, anyways, OP, you got two years. Just concentrate on what the Marines gives a shit about, and nothing else.
They test you on the following, and nothing more.
3 mile run
chin ups/pull ups (doesn't matter which, by the way, so do whatever is easier, usually chin ups) 2 min

sit ups 2 min

I recommend you just start running. Get fucking good at it in 6 months (you have 2 fucking years), then start greasing groove on chins. You can incorporate push ups under same principle. And just do endless fucking situps.

Forget all the myth around how wildly in shape the marine corps is. a 3 mile run in under 28 minutes? Big fucking deal. (depending how old you are but if 18)

18 y.o min requirement for MC
3 mi run under 28 minutes
chinups 3 in 2 min
situps 40 in 2 min

these are the minimums for each event, meaning you still have to do better in one to actually make it, so figure a couple more chins and a minute or two off of the run, and you are GTG. IMO, it should be damn easy for any semi-/fit/ fag to be able to do 10 chins, and run 3 X 8 minute miles and do a sit up every 2 seconds..... Thats all it would take to get a 2nd class fitness rating, and way more than it would take to get in.

Military service > Endurance training mostly.

Long distance runs,
Shit loads of push ups,
Shit loads of pull ups,
Lunge walking like a homo,
A lot of core exercises.

Practice sitting around being bored and cleaning toilets, because that's what you'll be doing after you get out of boot.

You're going to do ALOT of running.

Quite honestly, if you got running, pull ups and crunches down, the other hard part is just dealing with stupid bosses. But that's stuff you get anywhere, but with the Marines, ohh man, do they take stupid bosses to a whole other level.

But I did my time and I'm still ahead of the game compared to my other friends, who are still in community college. I enjoyed my time in, but I got tired of my knees killing me.
