Hey /fit/. I'm new to exercising so I apologize if the answer is obvious and I sound like a fucking retard but,

How do I get as strong as possible without packing on a lot of muscle? I'm a woman and I want to be really strong but I don't want to look like a bodybuilder. I know this is at least a little possible because Bruce Lee was very strong and he didn't have the physique of a body builder - I'd like something like that, except the female version. Help please?

Squatz don't seem like the answer to everything. Right now I'm trying to eat a low fat, high-protein diet. I do like 30-50 pushups a day and run for about 15 minutes. I lift 12lbs weights. I just really want to increase my strength. It bothers me to be weak.

On the FAQ of strength training it says that most guys who are skinny don't bulk a lot because they don't eat enough. If I continue eating the same amount of calories I do now (about 1300-1800 depending on the day) will that prevent me from bulking up a lot? Seriously don't want to be like one of those figure competitors, for me strenght + skill at fighting is way more important than having big muscles...

Don't worry, you won't look like Arnold Swartzanigger if you lift weights. Because you aren't a MAN, you won't get bulky. Just lean and toned. Have you seen olympic sprinters? swimmers? any track & field cunt? Are they huge? No.

Seriously, you will not get huge unless you eat and juice to be huge. At worst, lifting heavy weights will give you a delicious ass and legs, but you're obviously a ditz and can't realise that.

If you want to be strong, do some squats already. Your legs will get a little bigger and rounder and for all intensive purposes far more attractive... but you won't turn into a brick shit house overnight.

There is no way around it. Getting "really strong" requires you to lift heavy. Troll.

As has been said, you won't grow much if you don't consume energy to feed growth. Also you don't have enough T to get seriously bulky anyway (most female bodybuilders take steroids).

Keep your calorie intake to a level just slightly above normal and you'll get strength gains (on the right program) without gaining alot of mass.
Keeping up cardio will help keep your mass in check too. If you care about looking attractive to the opposite sex then watch your bodyfat doesn't drop too low either.

For good strength training refer to a good 5x5 powerlifting and/or olympic lifting program. (Rippetoe, Westside)
