I am looking to start free running. I don't plan on jumping over buildings, or flipping down 15 flights of stairs, but I do intend to get active with a couple friends. I was wondering if anyone on /fit/ had any experience they could share, whether its on where and how to start, or on clothing types, or more particularly on what type of shoe.
Thanks!

If it will help me get serious information, yes.

Go to a running shop and have them measure your foot for underpronation/overpronation. Buy some expensive asics that support your foot type. Also, you look like a cute chipmunk.

Well anyway, OP pic is hot. Lead boots and jump off 50ft buildings is a good starter technique, it teaches your knees to absorb the shock over time.

light and baggy cargo shorts and my 3 strip hoodie do me fine clothes wise, and a good pair of nike airs for me treads.

to start off with id say HIIT 3 times a week and long jogs 2 times a week, its sometimes better to go out training with mates but dont let them slow you down...

and if pic is OP id say dont even start free running, face is too cute. i smashed up my face coming off a phone box at the wrong angle and my nose looks crooked now

What do you consider a long jog?

60%-70% heart rate and 45 to 60 minutes is a good jog, imho. Also, free running is doing flips and crazy shit and parkour is overcoming obstacles as efficiently and fast as possible. Silly rabbits, those tricks are for kids. Just focus on cat leaps and rolling and the works and leave the backflips for kung foo mastahs.
