Lentils have toxins (lectin). Cooking is said to deactivate them, but I try to stay away from all legumes. Not as bad as cereals, but not the food we did evolve to eat.

Elaborate, because after you said
>not the food we did evolve to eat.
it reminded me of a few quacks.

lentils were a huge part of the Roman military and civil diet. Those were some tough mothers so if it worked for them, I'll eat me some lentils anytime.

all grains have toxins, that's why the paleolithic diet bans them

A woman died in Japan recently and it was linked to pesticides on the lentils she just ate.

Soak them in water overnight and rerinse just in case.

people can die from anything. Any vegetable, environmental friendly types included, can carry pesticides to the dinner table.

Flavor, protein and fat

so you add them to the oats?

lets say I had two meals of oats per day, two meals of lentils, and the other two of whatever I want.

Could I get healthy/strong/fit that way?

peanuts are legumes. grains + nuts/legumes = complete protein. specific amino acids only exist in meat/dairy. but your body can synthesize them if you eat a complete protein from the other amino acids in the grains and legumes combined. Except B12. That's only in animal protein, yeast, and fortified flour (most bread, vitamin pills, etc.)

if you're a vegetarian or vegan, be sure to combine grains with legumes or nuts when you eat to get a complete protein and take a vitamin pill or egg/fish/dairy to get B12.

the pb also makes oatz waay easier to eat.

>"Unlike dried peas and beans, lentils do not require presoaking before cooking. After sorting and rinsing, cook them in water or broth. Herbs, onions or garlic can also be added to the cooking liquid for extra flavor. Use about 1 1/2 cups of liquid per cup of lentils. Do not add salt to lentils while cooking as this may make them tough."

Can I cook the lentils in some low-sodium chicken broth instead of water for a bit of flavour?
