sup /fit/ i am in a bit of a dilemma because i have flat feet, its not like some i have seen on google searches etc. the problem is that i want to lose approx. 15-20 lbs, i am 5'6 ~180 lbs (20 yo), but i am fairly built (go to the gym 3 days a week, but i only lift weights) i want to start running again but after like 15 mins my feet start hurting like hell and its fucking annoying. i have tried gel insoles those helped a little but not much. i also dont have any back pain or anything just my feet. :(

Try a cheese grater on your feet so you dont have flat feet anymore.

I had the same problem: my feet are ludicrously flat, but the only way to lose my fat ass was to run.

My recommendation: get nice, well-fitted shoes and just... run. After a few weeks, you'll build up enough stamina/resistance/whatever so that your feet won't hurt.

But seriously, the shoe part is important. Go to a smaller, non-chain store where the clerks will probably be athletes and are used to dealing with the needs of runners/other athletes and will know how to properly fit a shoe to your feet. The shoes will probably be expensive, but it's worth it to be able to run.

so like orthopedic running shoes? or something along those lines? cause i ride a bike to school but its only ~3 miles 1 way, and the stop lights piss me off, so i just want to take advantage of the track at my school, i pay a athletic fee or w/e in my tuition so i want to take advantage of it

Wikipedia partial quote:

The Australian RAF conducted tests on new recruits and found no difference in physical ability or injury. If anything, flat footed recruits were less prone to injury. (this was probably based on statistics, of course there will be less injuries since less recruits are flat footed.)

I can only guess you're just not used to the pressure on your feet/ankles from running. Give it time and your body will adjust to it is the solution imo.

alright, i guess i just have to get my fatass down to the track and run through the pain lol. thanks for your input. its 2 am so good night.

You need orthotics, plain and simple. Mine were $400, but I've had em 5 years and I can run miles without problems anymore. My feet used to kill and my ankle would blow.
