I'm convinced that the practice of "spotting" in gyms is just an excuse for gay guys to hook up.

You've obviously never pushed yourself hard enough and come close to blacking out

When you're doing reps to failure with a weight that would kill you if it came to rest on your rib cage, it's generally a good idea to have someone there to, you know, keep that from happening.

Your 150 lb bench wont crush your ribcage.

I concur with OP.

none of you are strong enough to deserve a spot.

if you think about your gym, the strongest guys RARELY ever work up to a weight they cannot take care of on their own.

random gym shits however, flex nuts at every opportunity. i imagine 98% of you are in this category, and therefore must have OTHER MEN notice your greatness.

take one from wendler, where his standing rule is "unless its over 400 bench, you are too weak to earn a spotter"

thankfully i Oly lift, so i dont get harassed with this silly come-on technique

Well faggot I lift bench 9000lbs with my dick so of course I need a spotter to spread myths amongst the peasants of my fucking greatness.

Durr...

Adding weight each week inevitably leads to a weight you fail on. Without a spot you're in trouble then.

I only ask for a spot when I'm breaking my PBs because I don't know if I can lift it or not.

I got trolled...probably.

Any topic that leads you to care at all = you got trolled

failing on a weight just teaches you to fail on weights as well as tossing off your motor pattern (ie. did all reps look alike? i doubt it if you are failing)

its terrible for your neuromusclar recruitment patterns as well as providing you with about 3-4x the residual CNS fatigue if you stopped a rep earlier (on the positive side of failure)

enjoy you fail^2

Why not just do dumbell benching? That seems to be the easiest way to develop muscle control for stabilizing as well as easier to bail when you start losing your form.
>> Anonymous
lol. There is no way in hell I would bench my current max 120kg without a spotter. On the 7th rep I'm losing it, if that comes down on me eugh. Furthermore, for dumbbell shoulder press, incline press etc with DB's all need a spotter because I can't get the weight up to the position without hurting myself in a weird twisted angle situation.

I DB press atm but even then a 40kg DB with no real safety net if you fuck up is kinda scary when it's hovering above your face.
