Whats the best build for someone looking to be an amateur boxer?

what you happen to be born with. maximise your genetic potential, don't try and train somebody else's.

Not OP, but I'm wondering, how do I find out about my genetic potential?

Ectomorph - Tall and thin, large forehead, more nerve tissue than average, hard to put on muscle
Mesomorph - Average height, average build, more muscle tissue than average
Endomorph - FAT! More digestive tissue than others, hard to lose fat.

You're shitting me, right? He just means what your body can do. You must know that, you fucking lived in it for 14 years (probably ub&). Like you know if you can push yourself, know if you can gain/loose, know if you're a natural runner, or natural swimmer, etc?

Sorry, I did what I hate people doing - bitching without answering the question...

It doesn't really matter what your build is - that's what weight classes are for. If you're light, you go in a light class. It's like a strategy game - tall and thin in a light class is good to an extent cus you'll have a reach advantage over the small people... but they'll have more muscle and hit you harder. If you're light in the big league, you'll dance round them, but get fucked up when they hit you.

Watch boxers from different classes, see the average kind of height, and match it to you.

No matter the class, you'll need a fair bit of muscle and a FUCK load of fitness.

But there is no standard - there's always someone to fuck up the average in all classes...

As soon as we get that whole Human Genome Project finished, we'll let you know.

You see all sorts of different builds in the gym. Some guys will be short for their weight, others will be tall for theirs. This is why every fighter has a different style; you have to correctly use the tools you have.

There are a lot of other variable, such as whether you have a naturally strong punch or crappy balance or whatever.

Listen to your trainers and read everything you can get your hands on. Jack Dempsey wrote a boxing manual, so did Joe Frazier. None of them can be taken as gospel, but they add together into a base of knowledge that can only help you.

Amateur boxing is a beautiful sport. If you let it, your time in the ring will be something that you draw on for the rest of your life.

Keep your hands up and your chin tucked.

Thats the hottest 40 year old dyke I've ever seen.

OP here. Well currently I weigh 163 and plan on staying this weight but toning muscle. Seeing as I'm 24% body fat right now.

What kinds of exercises should I do?

Also does building tons of muscle mass help allow your body to then work on density?
