Question /fit/,

Can I run on the treadmill at least until I'm a better runner? I know you guys hate it, but why is that, exactly? It's easier for me at the moment because:
1) If I stop, I fall off and die
2) It tells me exactly how long I've been running
3) It tells me exactly how far I've run
4) It's indoors, so I don't freeze my ass off

These seem like good reasons to use it, so why is it inferior to just running around outside?

I'm not a troll, I swear, I just want to know why it's so bad to use treadmill and if it's at least good enough to use for the season.

its fine, just dont use it as an excuse to run slowly.

You've failed to tell me why it's so bad to run on the treadmill. And also, there is nothing wrong with being upset about running in the cold when it's fucking snowing outside.

>>460987
why drive to the gym to run when you can run to the gym or in the streets

and hey, your body warms up when you run, you fucking retard
>> Anonymous
>>460988
Because I live in the middle of nowhere and the gym is about 20 minutes away.

My body warms up? No shit man, but how about THE FUCKING SNOW AND ICE ON THE ROAD. Ice = slippery = I fall over and break my neck.

We hate treadmills because using one is much easier than running, even at equal speeds. Srsly.

>>460994
Thank you for a helpful answer. I'm not entirely sure why that is, but it's good to know. I'll look for an indoor track of some kind.

in my experience, i can't run longer than 20 minutes on a treadmill or too much sweat builds up over my chest and i get chaffed nipples
>> gay
>>460993
well if it's dangerous to run outside then you run inside. It's not like i'm saying running out in the middle of the freeway is better than a treadmill. Use your head, retard.

>>460993
wow dude, whole 20 minutes?? no way its so far, you better take airplane.
>Ice = slippery = I fall over and break my neck
what are you? a fucken humpty dumpty?

Resistance from the road + wind.

But don't listen to these faggots OP, feel free to use the treadmill during the winter months, just do a bit more than you would outside, and come spring...head outdoors again.

20 minutes actually might turn into 8-10 minutes if you jog/sprint. Good warmup and saves time. Get some anti-slip footwear, and just wear sweats/longsleeve shirt + sweater if you are afraid of the cold.

everytime i use a treadmill it results in me being flung across the room causing millions in damages

i cant understand why, as i only ever use it to walk on....

ive been barred from 28 different fitness clubs this year alone

there's nothing wrong with running on a treadmill. in fact, it's probably better in terms of stress injuries. just do it and ignore the trolls on here.

haha, oh wow.

>>461206

fuck you mang, it's fairly well known that actual running is a much better workout.... and it's fuckin' free as shit.

I was knocked down by a motorcyclist when I was walking home. He tried to push the blame on me saying I appeared outta nowhere. Pft, bullshit. Even if I had he shouldn't have been driving on the fucking sidewalk where we collided. That little fucker gave me 50 bucks when I tried to report our little accident. He walked off with some broken nails and me a bloody knee. Couldn't walk for a few days cause the knee was so scabbed I couldn't straighten it. I should have made the fucker pay more.

TL;DR it's safer being indoors.

> HURRRR I SAID FACT THEREFORE THIS ARE ONE DURRRR

"better workout" how? and what does that have to do with anything said? you still get more stress injuries and especially if you're not trained or conditioned for it.

0/10 and GTFO. mang.

treadmills are great for multitasking. some people install one in front of their standing-height desks. or you can watch tv, make calls, etc.

consider buying used. many people buy exercise machines, then give up, then try to give them to goodwill or the SA. craigslist is a good place to hunt one down.
>> Anonymous
>>461229
exactly why would you get more injuries from normal running?
>>461250
if you can watch tv while running, you are not running fast enough
>> Anonymous
Nothing wrong with it, its better exercise than trolling fit
>> Anonymous
>>461344
oh lol
why do you think? go on... hazard a guess...

Ill feed the troll because this a topic that comes up alot. someone may benifit.

Treadmill is bullshit to running outside because
1.) uneven terrain + wind resistance = better workout.
2.) most people dont put in enough work on a treadmill to make it actually usefull. if you can still talk while running, youre doing it wrong.

If you really want to use it during the winter months. do at least 10 minutes more then you would running outside and do it at a pace where you heart rate reaches 70 percent of your max.

This differs from the person to person. Especially if you're a fatfuck.

the pressure that it putes on legs is the same...so my guess will be that you are a retard, amirite?

outside has more niggers

but they make you run faster.

your argument is invalid.

Treadmills promote bad running technique. The 'fastest' way to run on a treadmill is not the same as running on the road. Generally, you will be moving vertically more and moving forward less than your should if you only train on a treadmill.

Hamstrings are worked less on a treadmill. Since you're not actually pushing past the ground beneath you your hamstrings generally don't do much more than stablise and cushion impact forces. On the road they help propel you forward.

Running on the road builds up stablising muscles. The slight changes in elevation over pavments requires your body to have stronger core muscles to continue running efficiently. This effect does not occur past a small initiation point on treadmills.

Downhill running is not possible on a treadmill. Running downhill extensivly uses your major leg muscles to cushion the shock. This process will put different mechanical stresses on the muscles which they will adapt to. This adaption reduces injuries throughout all your running and allows you to run down hills withotu experiencing delayed onset muscle sorness that is usually attrributed to the task by amatuers to the exercise.

Yes, road running is better for you than the treadmill, but don't be afraid to supplement your road running with the treadmill occasionally. I'm not going to run outside when it's 30 below zero.

Seriously though, get outside. Wise anon is wise.

why not? running in extreme temperatures is great mental and physical exercise, when done in moderation ofc.
altho i personaly use my diving suit when it gets <-15 C. gives some really weird feeling, like your face feels that its cold but at the same time you feel heat and sweat like mad and since you are hot it does not froze, looks so fucked up
