sup /fit/?

I've been going to the gym and eating healthily for about a year now, just because I want to feel better about myself and make the best of what I've been blessed with. So far it is going really well and I'm glad that I have the motivation to do it the best way.

But I do see a lot of threads on here talking about "starving" yourself rather than eating well and working out often.

I understand the whole "starvation" thing and I try my hardest to eat well everyday. However, I was wondering if cutting down your intake to a tiny amount a day would increase weight loss alongside exercise?

For example...your body may go into starvation mode if you don't consume enough calories but surely if you're burning calories anyway through cardio then you'll just lose more weight? There is no way your body can stop burning fat if there is nothing else for it to work on.

Ignoring the potential weight gain when you go back to eating and the horrible state your body would be in after losing weight super quick, would eating a lot less than you need result in fast weight loss or would your body just cut out before you could lose any weight?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I probably could have worded it better.

starving yourself will make your weight go down in the short term, but it's mostly muscle loss and will make you fatter in the long run.

it's like burning down your house to keep yourself warm

True, but there is something else for it to work on: your muscles.

This is what I was thinking.

Then it will make working out more difficult because you'll have less energy on top of that. Ultimately, making weight loss slow and difficult.

Thanks for the input /fit/. I can always rely on you.
