Honestly as long as you're not maxing out, you really don't NEED a spot. I don't have a spot either because I just work out at home and have only had 1 incident where I couldn't get the bar up. The fact that I KNOW there is no one to help me actually helps in motivating me, because in theory you're fucked if you don't lift.
The 1 time I couldn't get it back up though was no big deal. Just let it sit on my chest and rolled it down my abs and stomach and sat up. Then was able to lift it up enough to get out from under it and to set it on the safety bars.
