OP here, I would never consider DDR a workout (I don't really play it) any more than I consider the Wii a workout, but these DDR Fitness sites are popping up everywhere.

If anything, it's a good way to get active, but that's just something people ought to do anyway if they want to be healthy.

DDR has helped me lose weight. I went from 200 lbs to 185 lbs in a couple of months, by playing DDR almost every day plus some weight training.

Try doing some 8 to 10-foot songs and then tell me that's not a workout. "hurr it makes you look like a fag" isn't an argument.

DDR is pretty damn good cardio once you stop sucking and get the ability to do it harder than on easy. You will sweat up a storm and it is much more fun than running. You might have to do it longer to waste the same amount of calories, but it is better than wasting time surfing /b/ and being fat.

I certainly don't feel like a fag. Maybe when I was just starting out and playing easy songs, but being able to do difficult songs (without bar-hugging) seems to impress some people.

Cardio is cardio is cardio. Some are better then others, but any is better then none at all. My suggestion is going to be to do it for at the very least one hour a day. That's the very minimum you should do.

This is my story:

I am 6'3'' and used to weigh ~250 (I was 17 years old). I never excersized at all, ever. I ate tons of food. I could run a 15min mile and feel dead. Then I started playing DDR.

I played probably 4 or 5 times a week, for several hours a day. (Not hours of straight play, usually waiting in lines of about 3 or 4 people). Started on BASIC, moved up gradually. I remember playing Dead End (Maniac) and barely being able to breathe afterwards, after just that 1 song. I kept at it and kept at it. I noticed as I kept playing my appetite changed and I gradually started eating less food. I just wasn't as hungry.

I am now 23 years old. I can play a set of 9's and not get winded. I play ITG and can beat most 12's. ITG even has a built-in system for counting calories. I weigh 195 and feel great. I can do a 7:30 mile and feel pretty good at the end.

The best part about DDR is that it doesn't feel like excersize, its just fun. It helps your cardiovascular system a ton. Think about it, when you play hard songs its basically a sprint for 1:15 then rest until the next song. I love it and recommend it to people who don't like running/gym.

An unintended side effect is looking like a fag, but after so many years I really don't give a fuck what other people think of me when I'm playing.

DDR is good for cardio but the problem is that unless you're playing on doubles it's somewhat hard to work up a sweat as you stay centered in the middle. If you're a bar holding faggot this is even worse.

Pump It Up is much better for getting a workout. You are constantly moving your center around the pad and generally moving a lot more.

/fit/ only knows about HIIT and SQUATZ though, and I doubt even that.
