Hey /fit/,

On the elliptical machine, there's a heart rate thinger that goes if you input your weight and age. There is a scale that runs from warmup to high with "fat burn" and "cardio" in the middle. What's the real difference? Because no matter what, the faster you go, the faster the calorie burn count goes up. It seems a little counter-intuitive.

Pic mostly related.

Don't quote me on this but I think when you go into cardio mode, you aren't burning fat for some reason. But when you're in fat burning mode, or in that range, you are burning fat, but not getting cardiovascular training (or whatever).

...Like I said, watching "calorie burn", makes no sense. wtf.

Like the guy above said, no. In "fat burning mode," your heartrate is supposed to be at about 130 to 140 BPM. In this range, you burn more calories from fat than energy as you would say, if your heartrate was 160. The latter might be termed endurance level. However, at this higher level, you're basically doing more work and will, in fact, burn more calories from fat even though the ratio of calories burned from fat vs from energy is less. So take your pick.
