/fit/ I need your expertise,

I'm about 30lb overweight at the moment. I was <80lb overweight at one point, but I've dropped 50 pounds. That was the easy part, as we all know the last pounds come of the slowest.

My question is, would cycling 30 minutes a day (about 7-8 miles), 6 days a week, while on an 1800 calorie a day diet get me to my goal by the summer?

If not, what are your suggestions on what I should do to speed up my weight loss so I can actually make this goal?

We're gonna need a BMR calculation first, sugar.

it seems to me you are way too focused on numbers. Bike longer, eat less and eat right.

You've got a good plan to start with. Take it slow, don't get discouraged and don't be scared to ramp things up as you get more into condition.

As time goes by you'll gradually have to introduce more intense stimuli. Weights, bodyweight resistance training and swimming are examples of stuff you might turn to later.

Good luck!

Great, thanks. :)

But do you think I can reach my goal by summer, assuming I ramp things up gradually as I go?

My best advice? Don't worry about the scale. Take a picture of yourself and tape it to the mirror. Compare your pic to your reflection every couple of weeks.

Focus on how far you've gone, not how far you have to go.

Try to do at least an hour of cardio a day, and preferably an hour. If you like, I can help you estimate your optimal heart rate.

Also, cutting calories is good, but an active person should actually be eating more. Depriving your body of its energy needs will force you to go into a starvation response, and your body will metabolize more food as fat than it typically would.

Sorry, that was supposed to be "at least half an hour" but still "preferably an hour"
