Alright, I've lurked this board for a few weeks now and it even inspires me sometimes. Time to post.

My problem is my upperbody strength. I am naturally weak there and never drink Milk because I find it revolting. I've been lifting weights for a few months now, I've got two 4.5kg dumbells and I can see the improvement in the mirror, however, I'm still really damn weak. I can only do 4-5 push ups in a row before stopping, which is embarrassing. I have to use lower weight dumbells to do tricep workouts because they're so weak.

How do I focus more on getting strong rather than just looking toned? Of course being toned is important to me too, but my strength never seems to increase.

I weigh 8.8 stone which is kinda light, yet I have excess body fat. I joined a gym yesterday and hope to get on the treadmill sometime this week. Is it natural to be that light yet still have manboobs and a beer gut?

instead of getting on the treadmill. look into lifting heavy.

Keep doing push ups. You WILL improve. A few weeks ago I couldn't even do TWO push ups, now I can do about 20 (and keep going for the BURN).

Also, moar protein.

The 8.8 stone is pretty fucking weird, you probably have very little muscle mass. So MOAR PROTEIN. Lifting weights and shit for muscle gains is useless unless you are getting protein.

If you are wanting to improve your pushups, then look into "greasing the groove" technique by Pavel Tsatsouline (in his book Naked Warrior). Basically you do a couple of push-ups; but not so many that you are at failure. So, if you can only do 4 or 5 max, do 2 or 3. Do these small sets throughout the day. A good method is to make yourself do it every time you leave/enter a particular room, or just set an alarm. You can do this every day without needing a rest day. After a few weeks, take a rest day and the next day warm up and then see what your max push-ups are; it should have improved. Then take a rest day and after that get into the method again. As you improve, increase the number of reps, still keeping it under your max.

I'm pretty sure that you probably aren't eating enough and that's why you are so weak and not improving at all. OK, so you aren't necessarily trying to get big, but you still need to eat plenty of good stuff.

This, low number of reps with heavier weight will make you stronger.

PROTIP: Doing alot of pushups=encudrance, not strength.
Better get the "naked warrior" at /rs/, and go straight for the one handed pushup and pistol.

OP here.

Appreciate all the advice, I take it all in.

Pushups isn't going to get rid of all that fat though so I think I still go on the treadmill then left heavy. Push it to the limit!

As for protein, what do you recommend? I pretty much eat chicken every day, sometimes turkey.

I had thought of using that Nesquick powder to make my milk chocolate or strawberry, is this worth it? I feel I need to drink milk but I just can't stomach it. Should I take supplements instead.

Yes this is true, I try not to eat much because I'm worried about my body fat and I haven't got much exercise recently as I had a calf injury.
