Isolation exercises on the tricep are fucking useless is what, especially for all the beginners who lurk /fit/

Do some close grip bench presses you fags.

There's nothing wrong with a one-armed row. There is also nothing wrong with going low in squats as long as your body can do it.

HOWEVER, there is something very wrong when people do a movement like chest flyes, except they're sitting upright with dumbbells held up over their heads, elbows to their sides as if they're doing a front double bicep pose. There is simply nothing good about this exercise. You're doing a static contraction of the delts and nothing else.

There's another one when people bend over and do shoulder flyes. It's not a bad exercise itself; but no one realizes that they're working out the rear head of the deltoid, a muscle that's about 1" wide, and they're hurting their backs to do it. Trust me, you get that muscle worked enough when you do lat pulldowns, pullups, and other rowing movements.

Fine, much better then fucking kickbacks.

Yah man, just look at his legs!
He never did a squat in his life, just used that machine!
>> Anonymous
>>389310
I heard you don't even need the lat pulldown once you get into weighing down your pullups.

smith machines make me cry.

nothing wrong with one arm rows. faggot OP is a faggot

Unless you are doing inverted rows, I agree.

On stronglifts they seem to imply doing leg extensions is useless for beginners, why is that?
The shit is fucking hard!

"kickbacks.gif"

in the filename, and the GIF is someone doing kickbacks..

I always assumed that it's BECAUSE they're fucen hard. Beginners cant do them well, so they slack on form and they are useeless.
>> Anonymous
>>389395
Is this another case of an isolation exercise?
>> Anonymous
wtf is wrong with kickbacks? sure you probably focus on close grip when you start out, but my tri's are fucking beastly from doing kickbacks
>> Anonymous
>>389377
My physiotherapist makes me do this for me fuxxored knee.

I find they help me feel less pain when I run, but I combine it with squatz.
>> Anonymous
>>389570
OP here, guess I should of been more specific in my intent.
I meant top exercises that noobs shouldn't bother doing.

Nothing wrong with a kickback, but because you've isolated the tricep, when it naturally functions in tandem with the surrounding muscles, so you get more practical strength doing a close gripped bench, when thats exactly what you should do if your beginning.

When you already have a strong foundation, then you can isolate muscles and attack them.

That is a good point, when I tore up my lateral meniscus and acl the last thing I wanted to do was an exercise that wasn't stabilized for me.
>> Anonymous
I just started working out for a month, should I be doing lunges yet?
I do them, but I feel like my form is all fucked due to poor balance.

I also do squats, leg presses machine, leg extension and leg curls, calf raises, and lunges at the end with maybe 30lbs in each hand.

DEADLIFTS, WHERE THE FUCK ARE THE DEADLIFTS?!
>> Anonymous
Oh and I also do that one only chicks usually use, sitting down and spreading their legs, or closing them.
>> Anonymous
>>389272

why is this bad? i do this sucker with bout 10 kilos and i get a good burn in tris? something wrong with teh exercise?
>> Anonymous
>>389705
Your better off doing close grip benches and be able to load more weight in the exercise and build them alongside the same muscles that support it.
>> Anonymous
i thought you were dissing dumbell rows, i was gonna RRRAAAAGGGGGEEEEE
>> CWheezy !!bJFrM5LONOF

It depends on what you want.

If you're a powerlifter, you never want to do isolation, it does nothing for you.

If your oal is to get stronger, you have to work your body in big compound lifts. Isolation motions suck.

I much rather have a realistic sort of power.
Right now I'm at the early stages of lifting, I'm not completely clear on my goals but I know I am not striving to be a bodybuilder.
I do some martial arts recreationally, I like to get some bulk but mostly true strength.
>> Anonymous
who cares about strength it's all about looking great and being healthy, nobody here is a professional fighter or power lifter, and excellence in both of those sports is more about excellent technique and finesse than brute strength.
>> Anonymous
the day i ditched isolation work, stopped looking in the mirror and stopped worrying about looking more musclular and leaner, and started just trying to get a stronger bench deadlift and squat.

that was the day i saw some serious progress. the key is have your goals performance oriented.

oh and upper back work is important so yeah those rear delt flyes or facepulls or whatever are important as a support/rehab exercise

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

IT'S NOT THAT HARD TO LIFT IRON, YES, YOUR FORM CAN SUCK. IF IT DOESN'T BRUTE FORCE IS ALL YOU NEED

>>390399
You'll look great if your training for strength for an extended period of time and eating right.
Maybe not as beastly as some lifters, but more solid then most people.

Quite impossible to get huge doing martial arts, it burns as many calories as running does.
