Undoubtedly, deadlifts will give you strong hands. But they only train it in an isometric hold, which in grip training is called the support grip. Deadlifts won't train a crush grip. So, that's where Captains of Crush, Ivanko, or other heavy duty grippers come into play. They train your hands for strength in movement. Think of it this way, deadlifting and other support grip movements is analogous to a Charles Atlas isometric-style training, where you only develop strength in one position. That's why a lot of guys train with different width bars. Now, grip training is for your hands like what deadlifting does for your whole body. It trains it too be strong through the whole movement.
