what is /fit/s stance on the Ketogenic (no carb, all fat + protein) diet?

also, is there foods/drinks that help utilize and burn fat? I have been having trouble losing fat and need halp.

I did something like this, but I wouldn't say it was an "all fat/protein diet"... I just eliminated sugar/carbs from my diet and didn't care about fat or protein intake. I lost 55 pounds within six months, and I'm now consuming that stuff again but I'm using general healthier eating habits. It's working great.

Actually, let me correct that. No carb = no weight loss because your body will be starving enough to absorb everything. It will be like going into starvation mode when you don't eat.

Its great for short term weight loss, but after a year the fat loss slows down substantially. If I remember the research correctlyl, 1 year of Atkins is equal to one year of traditional calorie restriction diets. You're better off doing a diet like Atkins for 3-6 months, then switching off to something like Zone.

I should have been more specific. I didn't completely eliminate carbs and sugar, but I cut down significantly and stopped eating foods that were traditionally high in carbs and sugar.

If you want ketogenic, it needs to be less than 30g of carbs a day.

Massive ignorance here of being in ketosis. No carbs does not equate to death by a long shot. It does equate to a few days transition in which the person feels extremely tired and mentally sluggish, however.

The keto diet should have carb-up periods to keep the body used to having occasional carbs...
