Bottled Water 2-parter Anonymous
Is it true that refilling a used plastic bottle numerous times is bad for the water and you and, if so, why?
>> Anonymous
only if you believe using plastic in the microwave is bad as well, witch it probably is , also wouldn't drink bottled water if left in the sun or heat of the car

Yes, over time the plastic material breaks down and carcinogens are released into the liquid and ingested by you. I don't mean this like "OMG DON'T GO NEAR ANY PLASTIC BOTTLES" but I certainly wouldn't reuse the same bottle for days or weeks or whatever. If you like drinking from the same bottle, you can buy one made of thicker plastic or even stainless steel and feel better about it.

Same dealing with microwaving plastic containers and so on, as I see the poster above me mentioned. No one thing is horrible or will definitely fuck you up, but in general it's good to avoid putting flimsy plastic food containers through too much use.

I prefer my tungsten bottle. Bought it at a gift shop at some air museum in Arizona.

I use the same plastic bottle at the gym and usually refill it 2-4 times, depending on the workout. I'm still ok.

Never used one more than a day or two though.

why is refilling the bottle with water bad, when the bottle is originally filled with water for maybe months or years on end in a warehouse or store shelf or whatever?

could be it's wearing out and breaking down. your consuming a GREATER quantity of plastic. my trainer uses glass bottles for travelling. I just ... unfortunately prefer my "ignorance is bliss" and keep on packing plastic.

I drink somewhere around 2 gallons of water a day, and I've been re-using the same plastic water bottle for months (I buy the big 2.5 gallon containers and refill my water bottle through that). I'm guessing that, since I've been using this same plastic bottle for months, I should get something else?

its because Water is porous like spongbob, and what that means is that what ever is in the water gets held in the bottle. So if there is bacteria in the bottle and multiplies it can become stuck in the plastic of the bottle. So as the bottle is used more and more things get stuck in the bottle. So the new water you put in becomes just as dirty as the water you just poured out.
