Sup /fit/. So my question for you today is how do you stay motivated? I've been going regularly to the gym for a few months now. I'm not trying to lose a lot of weight, just get into decent shape. Even just going every other day is a struggle. Because I fucking hate exercising. It's boring, painful, and feels like a waste of time.

tl;dr How do I make exercise not suck?

Well no shit... who wants to lose weight all the fucking time? You should set a time limit lets say 2-3 months to cut your weight by X LBS. After that change your routine add more exercises, or find alternate exercises to target similar body parts. Add free weights because machines are boring.

Oh yea and get a workout partner.

the gym I go to has tv's in every cardio machine. so i bring my ipod and listen for the first 30 mins, then watch a show for the last 30. for weight lifting i just concentrate on my form and getting through the set so there's not much boredom there. are you bored with it because you're not seeing results?

Not seeing results certainly doesn't help. But just the act of either sitting on a stationary bike, or lifting free weights is pretty miserable.

Don't repeatedly do the same exercises and if you dont even wanna exercise start counting calories and staying 500 calories under your weight for 2 lbs loss a week. Or train for something you acually like.

Have a work out partner? I go to the gym with 2 buddies from work and it makes the time go by a lot quicker. You don't have to be some big jock douche to have fun at the gym. Just get a friend who also wants to work out and just talk about random crap while working out. It helps me out a lot.

Do something fucking fun then. You obviously aren't enjoying yourself. I got bored going to the gym so I created a work-out plan.

Monday: Muay Thai, LSD Running.
Tuesday: Muay Thai
Wednesday: Tempo Running. Weightlifting.
Thursday: Muay Thai
Friday: Muay Thai; HIIT
Saturday: NADA
Sunday: Hiking with a friend.

Everything I do except the running is social.

In other words, make friends.
Keeps everything fresh.

Right. So what's fun?

I've tried, but it's tough to coordinate people's schedules.

Then join a place to work out. I joined a boxing center about six months ago, you become friends with the trainers and the regulars there. I also feel that seeing other people doing workouts your striving to get to (how fast some of the people at my boxing center are, people using the speed bag, etc.) sets a goal for yourself in your mind. Goals are the main motivators, but dont set one high goal; set an eventual one, but know what steps it will take to get there.

Obviously you have to find something fun to do. What do you like doing? Any sports? Any interest in, well, anything? Learn tennis or swimming or hiking, just go out there and do something. Try rock climbing. Once you find an activity you enjoy doing, it makes it easier to create goals and reach them while you are in the gym.

You take LSD before running? No wonder you keep motivated.
