Gaining muscle = gaining fat? Anonymous
/fit/

Is there anyway to gain but not get that extra fat in the process; it seems that the only way to gain a lot of muscle mass is to one eat correctly and mainly protein, and secondly to eat above your caloric expenditure. But, when ever I do this I obviously gain fat along with my muscle. What should I do?

if that happens, cut down. bulk up - cut down.

Like everyone else does, bulk up for a few months, once you have the muscle you want, cut back down to lose the bodyfat. You can't gain/lose one without doing the same with the other.

Keep training?

A bit of fat can't be avoided.

Anyway to minimize it?

anyway, who gives a shit. get strong, that's all that counts.

Not for me, I would like to retain the lean look; but I guess that's impossible if trying to gain?

You can stay lean whilst you bulk, just not super lean.

Just eat a bit over maintanence, not like 111111000000000000 calories a day kind of thing.

Eat enough to bulk, but not enough to get fat.

I think I may have overdone the eating a tad, is there anyway to cut a bit and still retain the muscle gained?

hm, retain your protein intake, but reduce carbs and fat?

Eat slightly (a few hundred) below your caloric expenditure. Don't try to build muscle whilst doing this, though you should still lift weights.

tl;dr Cut. Then bulk some more, then cut again.

bulk, then cut.

repeat.

Why is everyone so fucking scared to gain a couple pounds of fat? The cut/bulk cycle is much more effective and easier to do. You've got to be smart about training, try not being so vain.

Well, I live in California, it's hard sometimes. But, I decided to say fuck-that-shit and gain a few extra pounds, and then start cutting at the end of May.

Okay this might be answered by googling, but since you're here I might aswell ask.
What is cutting? You stop eating huge amount of energy when not lifting, right? So how do you only loose fat and not muscle. eh
