I race bike regularly, don't see the benefit of fixed gears.

i ride one to school and back
it was the cheapest bike i could find, and since it's falling apart i don't think anyone is gonna steal it

OP here. It seems trendy, but from what I read it'll improve your pedaling technique. Also, it forces you to work harder at times, because you're unable to coast and shift. That's just what I read; I'm not even a cyclist.

once you went downhill at 60 mph you'll have higher regards for racers.
I piss myself at 35 mph already.

Fixed gear is not good for your knees on longer distances.
You want to ride high frequency, low strength if you want good knees.

OP here. I'm probably just going to ride it to the pool and back. I'm getting a lifeguarding job next week, so I figured I could get a little extra leg work in by cycling back and forth. Also, the pool is atop a pretty good hill, so that should be fun.

OP here. I left the front brake on since I'm new to riding fixed. Everything else is gone, though.

I heard about a guy smashed during an alleycat race in February. He ran a red light, though. Even still, bad publicity is bad.

awesome im gonna try to get into it my self soon as i find a old frame. cool to know some dig them on here.

i rode fifteen miles on my fixie yesterday and my quads and hamstrings hurt but my knees did not, nor have they ever. If you wear cleats and position them in the right spot on your riding shoes then there you get minimal to no knee pain.

people who ride fixed gear bicycles probably listen to vinyl through their tube-amplifier -- being different for the sake of it, even when the mainstream alternative is superior.

While I wouldn't use a single gear bicycle unless I had no other options, I can understand the appeal in the mechanical simplicity, less moving parts, less to go wrong.

You have any idea how fucking annoying it is to be putting about 200 lbs of force on a pedal, only for the gear to slip and your balls hit the [oftentimes hard/pointy-ish]seat? No vacation there.
