When you're fat and trying to lose weight, is it a good idea to do a lot weight training along with a lot of cardio?

Picture unrelated, just my goal body.

Well, it's not a bad idea.

He's no clutching it, he's shielding it from the judgmental, prying eyes of the internet onlookers.

doin all them squatz might compromise your cardio time

If you have A LOT of weight to lose, doing a lot of exercise in general will get frustrating. Because you burn fat but also your muscles grow, so there is no real weightloss.

Looking at the mirror instead of the scale fixes that.

Absolutely. There's some retard bullshit that gets tossed around on this board. I'm not sure if it's truly stupid people or just trolls . . . but they'll say you can build muscle/strength while also losing fat. They are stupid and wrong.

The *best* way to lose fat (I try to avoid the term weight because it's misleading) is to reduce calories while maintaining a high protein diet, weight training and HIIT.

If you have the discipline to monitor your cals (try and cut back 500 cals a day from your regular diet), eat 1g of protein per pound of body weight, lift 3x a week and do HIIT, you will annihilate your fat stores.

Weight is a stupid thing to care about. Body fat percent and your own eyes are what matters.

aim higher unless you're like 200kg of solid fat

Personally I'd do HIIT on the opposite days, just so I didn't have days of doing nothing. Keep the body primed to exercise every day.

If you are happy with your fat amounts and want to bulk, I totally agree to add a bit MORE protein than your actual body weight.

My friend is 5'10 and 120. He's a tooth-pick. my advice to him was to eat about 135 grams of protein a day while he's working out. Once he reaches 130 lbs, push it to 140 grams a day. Our goal is to get him to 140. He's one of those small frame guys so I think 140 would be an ideal weight for him.

Sorry, I misread your question.

What's your diet like?

If you are eating a good diet and enough protein and are lifting effectively, you should be able to lose fat and build muscle but I can't just magically tell you want to do because it depends on how fat you are, how well you work out and a how many total cals you burn a day versus how much you're eating.

2 whole eggs + 2 egg whites and some oats in skim milk in the morning

something lean for lunch

something lean for dinner

fresh veggies for both meals

fruits inbetween. water onreh. skim milk

generally 1 of those meals is eaten within 45m of lifting and I have a whey shake within 15m of lifting

cant think of anything else but I eat generally very clean and fairly low on carbs other than the oats and a piece of whole wheat/grain bread here or there

Also MWF 5x5 for my lifting
