Another HIIT thread, but a question for you experts fashion diva !3wJfpCMhKc
For background info - my main goal is to lose weight. I have okay musculature, save for my pathetically weak arms, but I can deal with those.

So my question is: is HIIT really a good idea?
At present, I burn about 650 calories with cardio, lift until I'm spent, and do another 350 calories worth of cardio to finish. I'm in the gym for about 2 hours or so doing that
The other day, I tried to do some HIIT and was totally spent in a few minutes. My legs hurt (for the first time in God knows how long), which I took to be a good sign, but I'm skeptical. Is a few minutes of HIIT really going to help me as much as an hour of cardio? I know I can't burn 1,000 calories dong HIIT, so why is it better?

HIIT is good if you got no time.
HIIT = maximum effect in short time.
If you don't like the stress and got time, do long-distance running or the likes.

but my main concern is losing fat, which I had always taken to be, at the bottom, calorie calculation. So I'm wondering what differences HIIT makes to the calculation that would make it as effective or more effective at losing fat than doing normal cardio for a long ass time

so just my normal routine should be more effective, you think?

More time spent is more calories burnt. So yeah, if you care more about fat burning than conditioning.

Not necessarily more effective in terms of weight loss, but if you got time to spend I don't see a reason why you shouldn't do classical cardio, like biking, swimming or classic running.
It'll all burn calories.

the theory is that hiit builds more lean muscle, which in turn burns more fat.
