Walkin' Anonymous
So, I recently decided to stop being such a useless waste of space, and get a real job. I quit washing dishes and became a middle management supervisor for campus security (I'm 21 and in college). Aside from other benefits, the job require me to

1. Walk from the west side of campus to one of the dorm areas, which ranges from a 5 minute walk, to a 10 minute walk up a steep hill.
2. Walk from dorm to dorm, checking paperwork.
3. In each dorm, walk up and down the length of the dorm, alarming all the doors
4. Walk back
5. Walk home, a 5 minute walk.

Basically, it's a lot of walking, but broken up a bit because every ten minutes or so, I'm stopping to look at paperwork. My shifts, with the walking portion, are 4 or 8 hours, depending on the day. I generally work a 4 hour and an 8 hour each week, swapping in another 4-hour if I'm free and want the extra money. I generally spent the majority of that time moving, but we'll assume paperwork heavy-days and that I'm filling out forms for half my shifts (which is an overstatement, thank God). So 6 to 8 hours of solid walking a week, broken up into 10 minute chunks, with a two or three minute paperwork stop in-between (on average. Stuff happens; it's security). Pretty much all of it is low intensity, with the hill and stairs too short to really be a factor.

My query: How useful is this job from a /fit/ perspective? It's difficult for me to get in other workouts due to time (and, I'll be honest, laziness. But also time!), but I notice all the other Supervisors who've been at it a while are in shapeish.

I'm not looking to be big and muscular, but I'm trying to lose some weight and such. Is 6 hours of walking a week a decent workout? How much more, if at all, should I be working out? Should I be throwing in high-intensity? Basic /fit/y stuff like that.

Pic unrelated.

Walking is fine, but you need to do tons of it, like 3 hours a day in 1 or 2 chunks.

Walking is good for general fitness, but they won't really be results you can see unless you're doing the Vierdaagse Nijmegen once a week.

Well, for a 21-year-old in college? I'm moving in the right direction.

Do SQUAAATZ while reading paperwork. Do SQUAATZ while fucking around. Lunges.
Shit man, get a rope and crank out a set or two a night. 10 minutes will get you started...
