i was a skinny guy and i got big-er to become a less skinny guy. i just can't get myself to consume more than 3000 calories a day to get HUEG.

i've been a skinny guy for as long as i can remember. but time went by and i gained a whopping 15 pounds of fat, and it's all in my gut. i think i'm what they call a "skinnyfat" person.

for the first time in my life, i feel i desperately need to lose weight. i don't even know where to begin though. bulking up with free weights? or cardiox9001 to lose the fat first.

Rule of thumb is to bulk first since the extra muscle makes losing fat easier. Plus you have something to show once you get your bf low enough.

When you have a decent core you don't have to flex to see that it's there, even at rest the muscles are visible as a layer over the stomach. He's got some work on his lower abdominals, but notice the indentation at the bottom of the ribcage, suggesting that he hasn't worked on that smaller group of upper abdominal muscles.

That depends a lot on the tendons that hold the superficial abs in place. On some people they're tighter, on others not so much. If you're in decent shape and he looks like he is, you've probably built up a reasonably strong core in order to stabilize your body while doing big lifts.
