On your own? No.

You wont go from lazy to ranger in 5 months since you dont apply to the rangers as a civilian, you apply for the US army then, if its the same as in the UK, you need to complete basic and serve for 1 year before transferring/applying to other corps/elite units.

No. You'll never make Rangers with your history. Even if you get into the right shape, you'll be in a platoon with mostly former football players and shit and you aren't going to get along with them if you've been an Internet addict or a gamer for most of your life.

Just join the Navy or something and take a support job. Rangers are warriors...not always the brightest bunch, but certainly willing to walk into a hot LZ and potentially take a slug to the head. You probably aren't that type of a person.

Requirements for airborne school, required to even apply for rangers:

* Volunteer for the course
* Be less than 35 years of age on the date of the application

* Pass the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) with a score of 180 points (60 points per event) using the 17 to 21 year age-group scale as the standard. The APFT must have been administered not more than 30 days prior to date of application.

Then start doing cardio sessions and build up to HIIT. Lifting and working on pushups, situps, pullups/heaves, squats etc.. should also be a focus. If you can, do trail running. The constant change in incline/decline and unevenness of the land will help your ability to run, something you do alot in the military.
