Anyone know of excercises that specifically target the Vastus Medialis?

A few years ago, I dislocated my knee, and required surgery; An arthroscopy, and the removal of some meniscus tissue. Recently I'd been having some pain, so I went to see my GP. He showed me what the problem was: My outer quadriceps were a lot stronger than my inner quads, and were pulling my kneecap out of alignment. [It's moving to the outside of the leg, when my leg is nearly fully extended.] He recommended 5 sets of 20 of tilting my leg completely sideways, and lifting for 10 seconds. Needless to say, either I'm doing it completely wrong, or this is actually targeting a muscle in my groin/thigh/pelvic area. So I'm looking for new, more efficient excercises.
