I'm not what I'd call a fat person, but I'm definitely not as trim as I used to be. My metabolism started slowing in senior year of college and nearly three years later, it shows.

I've had enough of it and have decided to just start eating better and exercising more. I doubt I'm exercising enough, though.

I do a walk around the nearby campus, about an hour long. Cardio-wise, is that enough? Is there anything else I should do, aside from jogging? I'm actually a little afraid to start jogging, both because I don't fancy the laughter that would ensue when I break down after ten minutes, and I'm actually a little afraid of my heart (not because it's/I'm lard-loaded, but because my family has a history of weak hearts).

Pic related, though I'm a bit less corpulent.

Go jogging at night, anonymous. Run/walk/run around an oval or something near where you are (presumably there's one lit or semi-lit). This is good because a) people can't see you as well and b) more likely to be empty. Repeat until you're fit enough to feel comfortable running elsewhere.

And if you're scared for your health, get a stress test done at the doctor's.

Keep at it. Find other cardio exercises: play basketball, rowing machine at the gym, something.

You sound Korean. Starcraft is not really a good exercise regiment. ;) Also, rice and juice actually are a lot of carbohydrates (aka calories). Try to cut out some of it (being Asian as well, I understand that you need _some_ rice, but just don't overdo it).

Actually, long story short, I'm not Asian, but my family lived in East Asia for 17 years. I also am dating a Korean girl, so our eating habits sort of intertwined.

I am a musician. Whenever I play shows, I feel like it is an amazing workout, lots of activity on my part (not including moving all those amps and cabs and drums!) Does this count as cardio?

Anything that gets your heart rate up is "cardio," but I'm thinking that a lot of your sweating that comes while playing is adrenaline, and not really your body working. I'm sure it's burning calories, but it's not like rock stars get rockstar abs by playing awesome shows: they get rockstar abs by not eating and doing a bunch of cocaine. ;)

Well, thanks for the tips!

And yes, this forum needs to have a sticky FAQ thread about commonly asked questions.

google for valet services around where you live.

get hired.

park cars for 6-8 months, you'll be your optimal weight in no time. the thing about valets is, they run to the car when the customer wants it back. and they run back after they park it.

in oklahoma, we get paid $3 an hour but I easily average $12 in tips alone. that's $15 an hour paid jogging. the only hard part is driving the cars.

easiest way to lose weight, period.

For tip jobs, it's the minimum, I think. You can pay waitresses and valets a certain % below federal minimum, varies by state.

Walking won't get you too far. It will keep you healthy, but it won't really make you lose weight.
What you really need to do is some exercise that gets your heart pumping, but if you have a family history of weak hearts, talk to your doctor before starting an exercise plan that involves it.
