dear /fit/
I has a question.

I lift a lot. I have a pretty serious routine going for me. I lift about 5 times a week.
I wasn't getting enough protein in my diet for any huge gains. This changed recently.

my concern... I quit smoking recently as well... and I started running a lot. I dont have time to run at a different time than I lift. Will I be fucking up any chances for a gain in muscle if I run after I lift? like 3 or 4 miles usually?

tldr
should I run after I lift? or will it fuck my body's ability to gain muscle up?

I don't see why running would hurt your gains IF and only if you're getting enough calories for the gain AND the running...but 3-4 miles? That's a shit ton of calories

its only about 400.

and I want to run more..
after not being able to do any cardio because of heavy smoking... its like a new world was opened up to me.

Yes you will be hurting your opertunity for gain.
You will get stornger and tone up, but the weight will slide off. If you wan't to gain slim muscle rotate your routine. While many of the extremists cardio in the morning and straignth train in the eavening. Their calorie intake is of the charts. Try one, one day. Than the next the next day. Remember to eat for what your training your body to do. Carbo load a reasonable time (depends on your matabolism) before running, and eat a sensible meal before muscle building, followed by a protien load.
Also if you have not done so already. Implament a creatin suplament prior to working out. The cheap stuff from Wally World will work just as well to start, and remember to mix it with non acidic juice. I.E. orange, grape fruit exc...
Remember. Give your body at least one day a week of rest to prevent injury. Keep on keepin' on brotha.

thanks

someone I lift with occasionally told me that when I run after I lift it disrupts the pump I get in the torn muscles and that fucks with the gains. If this is true, could I run before i lift? if this isn't true, I suppose I could run a few hours prior to lifting... maybe.

I forgot to mention.. I really really want to keep running everyday. I think its what helped me quit smoking... and it helps me stay off of it... almost like a healthier addiction. I wont take it overboard... and I'm not looking to get HUGE now so lean and toned muscle is good.

when I want to gain, I'll run every other rotating with lifting

thanks again

This man knows what hes talking about.

You CAN lift and run and you WILL see results in both strength, mass and endurance, but, and this is a big but, your gains in all three will be greatly reduced than if you were doing just running or just lifting.

When you lift you wreck havoc on your body, you put strain on your bones, joints and tendons, and you cause micro-tears in your muscles. All this is surprisingly good for you because after your body is given the proper rest and nutrients to repair it it becomes even stronger than before. When you combine running with lifting, especially running after you lift, you make your body wait longer to receive its needed nutrients and rest and you also redirect the bodys focus of repair. Instead of just maximizing its ability on rebuilding muscles it has to split its effort into making the heart, lungs and veins better.

Basically, pick lifting or running, stick with one until you get the results you want then combine it with the other.
