Sometimes it happens that I fail a rep on my 5x5.
What am I supposed to do about that? Do the whole set again? I don't have the strength left for that.

pic unrelated.

I failed a rep on my last set, I just left it at that. I'll get it next time when I try again.

think of it as motivation to spur yourself on to do more. do it again.

protip: squeeze out a couple forced reps for extra win.

aslong as you manage to do it next time with the same weight, you've nothing to worry about.

I fail the last rep in my last set every time. When I can do all the reps in all the sets, I increase the weights.

Listen, I'm assuming you know what your doing with the 5X5 program that your on...but for the "other" people that are so vivaciously reading these posts, here's a link to one of the better 5X5 programs out there
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/mahler73.htm
not only does it go over the basic exercises and theory of a 5X5 program, but it lists additional, intermediate steps taken after about 6-9 weeks on the program. To answer your question though, you should never really find yourself failing on the 5th rep, unless it is the 5th rep of the 5th set. Ceteris paribus, and your getting enough sleep and nutritional goodies, your solution lies in lowering the weight that your lifting. You might not have taken the 1st week of the program to test yourself and find your 5 rep max. I would drop 5 pounds off whatever exercise your having problems with and go from there. Remember, your not going to get the kind of results that the 5X5 program advertises if your constantly failing on reps or not getting all the externals right. Hope this helped.

are you doing the same weight on all sets or do you pyramid your weights?

if i'm doing the same weight on all five sets and i miss just one rep, i'll increase the weight next time anyway
if i miss more than one, i try next time with the same weight

for pyramids if i get all five reps of the heaviest set i increase the weight next time
if not, i try again

OP here, thx for the input guys.
Yes I missed the last rep on set 5, so it's no big deal. I'll just try again with the same weight next time.
