I bought a Model D myself, but I'm at school now where they have an old Model C and a Model B. The B is awful, but I find the C easier to sprint on actually.
I usually go for 5K at a 2:05 split on 7 damper. For several weeks last semester I did 10K 6 times a week at 2:10 or so on a 10 to 8 damper. I think I could go for a 1:37.5 500M if I went at it, but I usually go for 5K or more.
I don't know about you, but whether I use the uni gym or the Y at home, at least 3 people turn around and give me a, "Wtf is that thing (the rower)?" face. Especially if you're going over 30 s/m at a high damper or speed.
