real squatz done by people serious enough when they work out will be a grueling full body workout. Think about it. First, you are stabilizing a large amount of weight. This is bringing your entire back and abdominals into the movement. Your back brings your arms in. As you lower yourself, you are flexing and squeezing your hams and calf and all stabilizers in your lower body, to lower the weight in control, you can't simply drop down, in addition to the upper body stabilizers mentioned. Once you hit the bottom, you drive up with your quads and glutes. While driving, you are contracting your abs and likely squeezing the bar, keeping your upper body tight and rigid, all muscles coordinating to stabilize and/or drive the weight to the top. How in the fuck is that not a whole body workout?
