Good afternoon /fit/.

I've finally mustered up the will to incorperate fitness in my daily life (as opposed to just my days off), and was wondering when the best time to work out would be. As of now it looks like mornings are are always going to be open to me, so how early should I start, should I eat before or after, and how long should I work out? I'm 27, 5'5 and fluxuate between 160-162. My goal is weight loss.

And I DO eat my OATZ in the morning, using milk to cook it with a drizzle of honey for taste.

Pic related. It's what I use for an hour while I'm at the gym. I burn around 600 calories in that hour.

I normally stop eating everyday around 4:00ish, workout between 7 - 9, and sleep at around 12.

That's what my workout/sleep schedule was before I switched to night shifts at work. Eating was more about 5:30 - 6:00.

Mornings were the only good for me too. My day usually goes something like:
Wake up at 5
Grab a protein shake
Dress
Go to the gym
Get back by like 6:15-6:30
Have OATZ and another protein shake (I do one scoop pre-workout and one scoop post)
Get ready for work...blah blah blah.

This is my second month, and I feel great. Gives me tons of energy during the day, and just gets me going.

Instead of a protien shake, what about protein bars? I've used the Luna bars before, but haven't invested anymore because I just simply haven't had the money. And are protein shakes good for those who are trying to lose weight? If so, what brand do you recommend?

Pure Protein, Dr Carb Rite Diet and the South Beach Diet bars are the best protein bars you'll find

>>South Beach Diet Bars...

The meal replacement ones or the snack ones? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question.

The Cereal Bars (140 cals) are really good as are the meal replacement ones (210 cals)

Wake up and eat a shake with some fruit, go to gym an hour later. Get home have another shake with fruit and some peanut butter. 1 hour later eat a whole meat, go to work, 3 afters after that first meal eat another, then three hours later eat a protein bar, come home eat another meal, and then sleep 2 hours later

Rigorous Martial-Arts burns 800 per hour, 900 for those with a larger frame and larger body size.

My friend lost almost 2 pounds of body weight (Not water-weigth) on the 1st dan blackbelt grading. 8 hour day of class, testing and material.

oh wow I kinda hope my brazilian jiu-jitsu class is that intense..

OP, you sound like you've got your thing right. I wouldn't eat before you work out if your goal is fat loss, my only suggestion from personal experience is if you play on a lot of up and down exercises, i.e. burpees, I'd eat something small before your workout, granola bar etc.

lol yup, its possible to learn 2 lbs of body fat in a matter of hours. You're the type of guy who says shit like "bicep curls with the pinky out changes the shape of your bi's to a more trinagular shape"

800 calories / hour, 8 hours of martial arts, do the math.

Black-Belt grading tests at our school are probably the hardest thing you will do in your life. Arctic trekkers will lose 3 lbs a day if they don't eat much, just like you wouldn't have a full meal during the test. A couple power bars, a lot of water and some gatorade.

listen, it takes more work to burn fat. You can lose a shit load of weight but its not necesarily fat. it's a complex chemical process to burn fat dude. im not denying he lost two lbs. But alot of it was sweat and nutrients. There's no way he lost 2 lbs of body fat in one day.

in order to burn fat you must eat fat, once you start eating fat it tells your body that more fat is on the way so it burns the fat stored in your body.

I chose the eliptical machine because it's easier on my legs as opposed to running... since I am on my feet all day when I work. I know I'd have better results if I ran, but I would like to be able to walk out of the gym after I'm done.
