Looking for suggestions on improving upper body strength (primarily for push ups, I can do about 20-25 in one sitting right now and want to get up to like 40-50 in 2 minutes or so)

Currently at 196 lbs, 6 ft. tall.

Right now on Monday/Wednesday/Friday I try to get in 200 push ups throughout the day along with some sit ups here and there.

Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday I run an average of 3 miles at about an 8 minute per mile pace, and then I do a leisurely 5-6 miles on Saturday.

I have no problem with running really, I just need to burn some fat/weight while keeping up with upper body because it seems to be easy to work on my lower body.

Right now I'm limiting myself to around 1400 calories per day, usually 4-6 meals around 200-300 calories each.

Any suggestions to increase my weight/fat burn and increase upper body strength?

I have some weights downstairs but I have no idea how to divide my week up for lifting and I'm not sure it would even help with what I'm trying to accomplish.

EAT MORE 1400 CALORIES IS FOR 90 LB WOMEN...PUSHUPS ARE A CARDIOVASCULAR ACTIVITY AND WONT INCREASE STRENGTH UNLESS YOU MANIPULATE YOUR BODYWEIGHT...BENCH PRESS, DIP, DEADLIFT, SQUAT!!!

>PUSHUPS ARE A CARDIOVASCULAR ACTIVITY AND WONT INCREASE STRENGTH UNLESS YOU MANIPULATE YOUR BODYWEIGHT

Wrong. Push ups are a cardiovascular activity when you are pumping out 100+ in 2 minutes. If you're doing 20, that's strength training because your body weight is enough weight.

Like the honkey above me stated, weight-training is the way to upper-body strength, not huge amounts of push-ups. You aren't putting the stress onto your body that you would with heavy compound movements.

Also you need to work-out your entire body, to stimulate hormonal growth, not just your upper body. It'll also raise your metabolism, which you'll need because you need to knock your fucking calorie intake up to at least 2200 calories a day.

What you're doing is partially starving yourself, catabolizing muscle, and soon you'll be stuck with no muscle and a shit-load of fat left.

Also you have the Gyne, those aren't just plain man-boobs.

If you can get to a gym, then do the Starting Strength routine.

If you can't then you should do a full-body bodyweight routine, you need to workout your entire body, not just your arms.

Do whatever type of Weight-Training Mon/Wed/Fri, and do cardio Tues/Thur/Sat.

One way to increase the intensity of your pushups is to weight a backpack and wear it while doing the pushups. It's the poorman's benchpress.

Okay so is there medication I can get for this man breast illness I just found out I have or do I have do get a fucking breast reduction, holy shit this sucks.

You can reduce it by putting muscle onto your chest, and lowering your body-weight percentage substantially.

I used to be 220 @ 5'7, and now I am down to 170 with more muscle than I was at 220. My tits weren't as bad as yours even when I was heavier, but I think I had much more muscle from Football.

Your problem is you have almost no muscle, and all fat. If you changed it up, they wouldn't look at bad.

You might still have slight tits, but it'll be world's better than what you have now.

Are you sure you're 196? When I was 14 and like 5'3", I topped out at 196 and looked nowhere like that. Of course, my body is a huge mix of endo-meso.

Okay, so up my calories to like 2200 and start doing more work on muscle?

Yes, I'm positive I'm at 196

Yeah, I meant body-fat percentage, not body-weight.

2200 is just a ball-park guess, you need to figure out the numbers for yourself. If you feel you aren't losing weight correctly, than change it accordingly. 1400 is entirely too little for someone your size.

Honestly, you should completely avoid micro-managing, you aren't a bodybuilder. Just eat six meals a day (but not so little that you end up not having energy/using muscle as energy).

And yes, you need to start weight-training.

Maybe a bit more background would help, I started off at like 260-270, went down to like 185, went back up to 215 and now I'm back down to like 196, I've got some excess skin :|

You didn't have to tell us that, that's quite noticeable.

You can get rid of that with surgery, no way to work it off.

Although you probably already know that, so I'll just shut the fuck up now.

Surgery is the only way to get rid of the glands. Working your pecs might make it look better but you'll still have breast tissue and puffy nips.
