In my experience and other lifters I've talked to, gloves make it much easier on the lifter when lifting heavy especially. But it's a trade off because you sacrifice the development of your grip strength and you don't toughen your hands properly to lift really heavy and sustain a grip for long periods of time, kinda like the faq says.
Also, I have no idea wtf>>443352is talking about with regards to circumference unless he's just trying to defend his wearing of gloves, which I really don't give a shit who wears them or doesn't. Sure it adds a little circumference, but it's infinitesimal compared to the advantage you have when lifting with them versus without them.
If you don't want calluses and don't mind a lessening of grip strength, then wear gloves. If you want to develop your grip further and toughen your hands, then don't wear them. It's up to you. But I would probably go by the faq rather than listen to some random anon weakly defend his glove wearing. Plus I don't recall seeing ZC wearing them, or any other serious lifter at the gym either. Usually it's the casuals or noobs wearing them.
