Hello /fit/.
I want to get into Le Parkour/Free Running, but im pretty much weak, clumsy and I lose breath too quickly.
What should I know before I start doing it, and what should I do before as preparation?

The best preparation to do something is to just start doing it.

Grow some balls, go to a group and start there.

I think you should have to be pretty good at gymnastics, like at least know how to roll out of a high jump, and you ahve to be pretty strong also, not ripped, but nicely cut.

Well, if you feel like you have to do some exercises. Do explosive strength based ones.

But watch yourself, alot of people die, start of small, dont go do some 3 storie jumps your first day, start by jumping off shit at parks, and stuff on ground level.

You need to be in shape, so don't attempt if you're overweight and/or have poor stamina/UB strength. Hit a gym and address those first

The key is rolling and learning to fall right. I'd recommend taking martial arts on top of whatever regimen you come up with. As far as I know, all martial arts address falls/rolls very early on (though the depth of coverage varies, I'm sure).

buy some really good shoes. like the ariake shoes from k-swiss. train your joints, it is a painfull road. and take a course/workshop.

I do this occasionally with some friends and a group of people that found each other via the internet to start parkour.

I haven't been going lately because I finally just started exercising after 6 months of doing nothing (coming from an extremely sports-filled background).

Anyway, just note that you have to be extremely committed to do parkour. If not, be prepared to eat shit because concrete is not forgiving.

As most have said, learn to roll out of a fall. I am not at my home computer (housesitting), so I will see if I can find the links where it addresses the types of parkour moves and such.

Why the fuck would you want to do an extreme sport if you can't even meet one criteria requirement. If all you can do is fuck all, why would you want to get into parkour?

Wow, that's some motivating advice. If I "accepted my limits" back in the day I wouldn't have gotten anywhere. What you describe as limits are just fucking temporary conditions unless you accept it and just "move on". Some people don't get a great start in life, they have to fucking make it themselves. While elsewhere maybe someone that got some positive motivation or actual help started running and eventually COULD run a marathon. Then to continue improving them to advance within the parameters of your goal.

Me again, as for the preparedness, I'd say fuck PK\Free Running, and go for something equally as cool, half as stupid and twice as sexy eg... Acrobatics + strength feats.

The difference is the danger is traded for skill, which is half as e-peen increasing but twice as awesome:P

I mean learn gymnastics, do rings and bars work, learn to do 1 armed chinups etc, things that instead of being risky to be cool, are just ridiculously hard to be cool.

Even if you're stuck on PK\Free Running, gymnastics, strength feats and all that are the perfect thing to prepare you.
