Apologies in advance if this gets asked a lot.

I'm not overweight by anyone's definition of the word, but I do have some softness around the middle I'd like to take care of. I don't want a perfect 6-pack, just to sort of firm up my stomach a little and reign in the lovehandles.

I can't get to a gym on any kind of regular basis right now, so keeping that in mind, what's the best way to accomplish this? Cutting back on fatty foods, of course, but what excersizes would be best, where can I read about proper form, that sort of thing?

Thanks.

Pic unrelated.

count calories and be hungry a lot.

The six pack ordeal is about nutrition, having a decent foundation of abdominal muscle (easy to get) and burning enough bodyfat. So, eat right, run some, and you should see it. THE biggest factor is nutrition. If you drink sodas regularly, eat junk food, or a lot of carbs and don't run you won't see it.

IMO, muscle is fucking overrated without strength but hey the bitches like it and they have vagoos. Whores. Your picture is complete fucking win btw.

I wondered about running/jogging... I live in a very rural area so there's plenty of room for that. Like I said, though, I don't give a shit about having a washboard down there, I just think I could do with less softness casting a shadow over my belt.

Running on road is very much preferable over a treadmill simply because the impact it has on the abdominal area. It's fine to mix it up as long as you include road running. If I haven't ran on the road in a while and I go out for a job I come back sore only in the area (and maybe my ass if I was working out before I left). Rural = hills, different terrain, and thus more angles for impact and more challenging on the body. That, imo, is your first step. Try it out and see what effect that has on you and adjust the diet in relation (diet affects running as well).

So I take it you don't agree that a "low impact" workout is best?

Oh hey, sorry OP threads keep sinking away. It's all really dependent on your body. I may be able to get away with low impact but you may not, it is dependent on YOUR body. So, you will have to experiment with it. I know people who do low impact and eat right and whammo have a six pack. I also know genetic freaks who drink coke all day and were born with an eightpack.

There have been some some good results in general fitness with interval training, fartlek, and some others will names that don't matter. Essentially it's all out sprinting in intervals. Sprint for a minute walk for a minute. More advanced routines work in different time limits and percentages that are scientifically proven to speed up your run times. I know some guys who sprint all out back down to 75% effort for a minute, rinse and repeat. I would generally wouldn't last long like that. The good thing about sprinting is that it's anaerobic which is the same category as weight lifting. It's an all-out show of force that works fast-twitch muscles(and more if you sprint hard enough) and makes your heart pump harder. So, in theory those muscles would be working harder to stabilize your body (what the abs do). I say experiment with it all. I have tried lots of shit and sometimes you don't have the heart to do ten sprint intervals but hey you may feel like you want to experience that feeling of accomplishment/puke next weekend, so mix it up. It all becomes easier and your body adapts as you do it but just be careful that you don't overstress your joints (sometimes it's bitch pains but othertimes you may need rest).

For general ab strength (and how to balance your abs and back) you can procure a copy of Pavel Tsatsouline's beyond crunches/bullet proof abs book. Some of it is hard to follow and you will have to find an alternate to using that stupid pavelizer (it works but its expensive as fuck) but it's got a good bit of helpful facts in it.
