What>>81598said has a point, as "getting toned" isn't really any better of a way to describe someone than "getting ripped". Wouldn't say "rip them abs some", would you?
To get this "tone" you're wanting, you gotta eat right and lift with some cardio on off days, or rather 'bulk', then after gaining enough muscle, you put less emphasis on lifting and more on cardio (but equal emphasis on eating right) or rather 'cut'.
"Toning" to get a six pack is misleading, as abs show up when your bodyfat is low enough.
