Hiya /fit/

I have begun exercising about a week and a half ago (have to go to army soon and they'll send you back home if you can't perform), I am currently in very bad shape and can't even jog for a very long distance before becoming out of breath.

I have been walking&jogging and cycling for at least 50 minutes almost every day now, and also working on my upper body strength. I was wondering if I could do a HIIT exercise a few times a week in the morning in addition. The reason why I am asking and not just doing it is because I read that it can be somehow harmful if done in bad shape, like I am currently? I have lots of extra fat to burn so that exercise would be a welcome addition. Sorry if this asked a lot, I only recently started browsing this board.

Also, do you think I should jog as much as I can or just take it easy with a fast paced walk?

i think you should reduce jogging to HIIT sessions 2 - 3 times a week, and focus on weight training your whole body, including and especially legs

Height and weight? What's your time for 1.5m run?

As long as you're not massively obese, you'll be fine. They KNOW how to condition people.

you have to build stamina, and fast. bodyweight squats are perfect for making strong legs and glutes. do 50 in a row and dont tell me your heart isnt pumping faster

Well to be frank they don't send you home if you at least try hard (talking about the Finnish army here), but I wouldn't like to be the worst in the group. Mostly you need to walk long distances there while carrying a lot of weight, and have strength for some pushups and pullups. I weigh about 77kg (170lbs) and my height is 176cm (5.8 feet). Got a fair sized beer belly but not really fat elsewhere.

I haven't timed my runs so I can't really say about that.

Well, why not just choke on the physical exams, thereby not going to go kill innocent people.

In Finland you have to:
a) Go to the army (6 months)
b) Go do "civilian service" for free (12 months)
c) Go to jail (6 months)

I've chosen the army and decided to do my best there.
