Hello /fit/.

Kinesiologist and specialist in biomechanics here. I thought I'd do my one good deed today by donating some time in helping /fit/ by answering any questions. All those long technical post you see in other threads, with links to orkut and themedicalhelp.com were done by me. I'm not TRYING to spam, its just I've written down the answers to the most common questions on those pages, so when they get asked again, copy-pasta is just so much easier.

But anyway, I'm here, so ask away.

landing a straight drop from hight, best way to disperse the shock, angle of knee bend, angle of forward bend etc. Been wondering about it for a long time so an answer would be good

Op here...

The angle of bend is not something you control in detail...

Also, what are you trying to do? Simply break your fall or are you doing depth jumps? If the latter, you touch the ground with your toes first, though the majority of the landing should be taken up by your heels as you bend at both the hips AND knees. Point of transition is not really important - you can transition your rate of decent to an ascent after only a slight bend, or after a slightly larger bend.

Dont bother transitioning near the bottom of a squat like position... this is too far down, and the stretch reflex mechanism cannot be activated sufficiently.

not depth jump, although they are interesting and I am reading up on them myself. This is an issue coming from the parkour community, and something that has been discussed a fair amount. Basically the safest possible way to land a straight drop.

Don't they usually roll after a drop like this? I would imagine that would redirect more kinetic energy than attempting to absorb just a straight drop.

straight drops though... people would generally roll but it would not do much good, I am trying to keep it as simple as possible, adding roll questions would complicate it.

Come on fellas, this is a one time thing only. No one else has anything they wanna ask?

I'll bite. One of the muscles in my shoulder atrophied. Minor muscle. Is there any way to bring it back? Ive gained mass, so this muscle lagging behind its starting to look weird.

Question for OP: What exactly is kinesiology? My chiropractor/doctor practices biomagnetic applied kinesiology, which is the coolest shit ever. With some magnets, a shitton of vials of common things (nutrients or whatnot), and pressure points (?), he can figure out pretty much anything wrong with you. What he does is put a vial under a magnet on your leg, say, with calcium or something. Then, he presses certain spots on your ear or something, and presses down on your arm, which you hold horizontal, and depending upon how your body reacts to the vial, he can tell what nutrients/etc you need, and the pressure points somehow tell him where something is fucked up.

As you can probably tell, I understand jack shit about how he does what he does, but I guess my question is, is this anything like what you study?

That's ok, he has no idea what he's doing either.

OP.

I want to gain weight on a budget, I'm 6'4" and 190lbs. Can you help me write up a diet plan please?

(Yes, I know this isn't your speciality).

what are the differences in muscle activation between a front squat, low bar back squat and high bar back squat?
how are they affected by stance width and depth?

Wake the fuck up OP.
