Today I went and bought 50kg of sand. When I lugged it up two flights of stairs and nearly collapsed at the top I got this feeling of success, because this is obviously the way to go for a poorfag with a membership in a really shitty gym that I don't want to go to anymore.

Tomorrow I'm taking that sand and making a good sandbag, and then I shall start doing weighted SQUATZ for the first time in my life. Also deadlifts and compound rows and all that jazz. I feel like I've wasted a lot of time in my machines-only gym because I've been going there for 6 months and sure I'm stronger, but I could be so much further in my progress if I'd just taken that membership money and bought a decent barbell, a bench and some weights.

Has anybody gone this route before (training with just a sandbag and body weight) and have any experience to share?

I have no experience with this but... ITS FUCKING MANLY. THIS IS YOUR FIRST STEP TO GAR

How would you do deadlifts and rows with a bagofsand? Tie some rope around it into handles?

I intend to just grab the bag so I improve my grip strength as well. I'll see how that goes. If I rip my calluses or whatever I think I'll try the rope idea.

My plan is to fill the sand into lots of ziplocks in varying weights (so I've got baggies with 1.25, 2.5, 5 and 10kg) and then throw them into a duffel bag or something.

That's ingenious.

GAR is the state of being so manly and hotblooded that it can make straight men gay.

I bought the sand at my local homedepot-style thingee. I bought it (as opposed to stealing it from a playground or something) because I wanted good, clean sand without sticks or sharp edges to puncture the baggies. It was fairly cheap ($16), but I'm sure I could've gotten it for a lot less if I'd gone to an actual construction supplier. I don't have a car though so that was out.

Here are some of the exercises you I intend to do with the bag:

I think I'm on the right track towards functional strength training. I've got a pull up bar and some pushup stands as well. The stands aren't really necessary and they're an extremely flamboyant purple but I find that my wrists hurt less if I use them.

Forget about the pushup bars. Just put 100lbs of sand on your shoulders and do as many knuckle pushups until you pass out. Win/Win situation: Even if you don't pass out, you're still becoming GAR by each pushup!

Why not get a cheap bar and put two buckets/bags on the ends?

Maybe I'll do that as well. Or go real ghetto and cut down some of the bamboo in my yard, strap it together and use that.
