>>22702 Aspartame is now the most commonly used artificial sweetener. You can look on nearly every dietary or sugarless product and find aspartame in it. Anything from diet soda, crystal light, candy, baked goods, you name it. So why do people believe Aspartame is a better choice than sugar? Well quite frankly, its only real benefit is a lack of calories, which in itself is also a bad thing.
Lets take a peak at some things Aspartame does to the human body;
The most common thing Aspartame does to the human body is cause cravings, which can be counter productive to people looking to stave said cravings and lose weight. Because of Aspartames sweet taste, when it hits the tongue it tells the body Hey, foods on the way! But when no calories enter the system your body then says WTF, why are you holding out on me man!? Because of this, many people dont feel satiated by diet colas and then move on to consume other junk foods thus thwarting the whole point of consuming the dietary product in the first place.
Approximately 10% of aspartame, when it reaches the small intestine, is converted into Methanol, which is then absorbed by the body and converted into Formaldehyde. Another 40% of Aspartame is broken down into Aspartic acid, which spikes plasma levels in the body and cause sever damage to organs. Now, while the Methanol and Formaldehyde content is generally too small to cause any short term problems, studies show that long term consumption of these chemicals, mixed with the Aspartic acid, may cause a slew of brain problems listing anywhere from chronic headaches, memory loss, to an increased likelihood of Alzheimers Syndrome earlier in life. Aspartame has also been linked to other illness in the liver and kidneys.
