I run in Saucony. They're the most comfortable shoes I've worn so far. Limited experience on a state trail, but they did pretty good.

distance running i must suggest saucany...
for sprints however, the Starbury cyclone is the way to go... it's light, has good traction, etc.

Hey OP, are you racing? Got some big competition coming up? Do good shoes help you get in better shape? I want to start working out, I just don't know if I should spent a fuckton of money on shoes and weights or if sandbags, pushups, and my $20 work shoes will suffice.

Its nice to come back and actually see replies...

I actually need these for rowing conditioning, since we run and do sprints/relays and the like, and i'm tired of running in random-ass shoes all the time.

I like Newbalance, they're comfortable yet affordable.

OP, couple questions

How far or long do you plan on running?

How often?

What is your price range?

a) at most about 4-5 miles at a time
b) 4-5 times a week
c) <100$ would be nice

Good shoes won't get you in better shape, but they'll make the exercise more pleasant, and will ease the strain on joints, which will help a LOT down the road. That said, I wear pretty plain Adidas; anything made to be a running shoe is good for casual joggers.

Slightly off-topic, try to jog/run on grass, dirt, or the like. Concrete and asphalt suck ass and are hot and boring and hard.

if it's just for conditioning and land practices, i'd say saucony is the best brand as a whole...

also, where do you row, what level, what weight, etc.

Damn, that looks like it'd be an EPIC parkour shoe.

I have a pair of Nike Free's. They're not great for long distances, but an awesome show for short distances because they help strengthen your feet--the shoes are meant to simulate barefoot running. Your feet and calves will be sore for a week or so, but they strengthen up a good deal.

I like New Balance shoes, but honestly you can't really go wrong. Asics are among the best, but pretty pricy.
