hey /fit/,

I'm a thinner guy but was skinny fat with a small gut. cause of the lack of muscle I started bulking and got significantly stronger but also now have a full blown gut (went from about 163 to 170 lbs). the muscle gains were very good - 135 lbs up from 95 on my bench - but my muscles are not as big as I'd like yet. I plan on starting to cut in october; is it a good idea to focus on hypertrophy (high reps) during this period? any way to minimize muscle loss during this period? any other suggestions?

1. 7 pounds wouldn't really make your gut huge per say.
2. Good gains, although I think you should cut 20-25 pounds to get rid of some moobage.
3. As long as you're lifting, it doesn't matter if you use 5x5 sets or 5x10 sets, alot of people actually gain strength on cuts.
4. High protein, medium fats, low carbs, watch out for sodium, drink lots of water.

and yes, as I said I was skinny fat to begin with and got fatter with all the bulking. goal is to get down to 155 at least.
