A good combination. I love boxing, and I've always been meaning to look into grappling for a change.

Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling and BJJ. I also go to the kenpo/TKD classes at my gym once in a while if I'm bored, but generally I try to avoid crap like that. Still looking for a good Judo place.

Used to train BJJ during the week and Muay Thai on the weekends.

I gave it up though, and started bodybuilding instead. I miss grappling sometimes, but I feel better about myself with big muscles than knowing how to beat someone up.

I wanted to do MMA. But I'm too light. Minimum is like 145 isn't it? I'm 130 5'7". And I struggle to maintain even this weight. My body goes to 100ish lbs naturally. Fuck you genetics.

LOL! Strength is extremely important in a fight, more important than skill even. If your opponent is massively stronger than you, you will probably lose regardless of your skill level. There are some exceptions, but not many.

The only thing more important than strength (in a fight) is endurance.

You miss the point.>>101744said he started "BODYBUILDING" and as we all know bodybuilders are all about SIZE not STRENGTH so before you call someone out on something at least learn the fucking basic facts.

>>101760
I was merely ragging on him for going after non-functional muscle. It's what powerlifters do to the pretty-boy bodybuilders, and they call us dumb. It's all fun and games.
>> Anonymous
>>101770
In that case the bigger guy was a fatass and therefore was way slower and had less endurance than Fedor did.
>> Anonymous
>>101757

Remember when Trunks achieved USSJ and fought with Cell? Remember how he lost despite the overwhelming strength that he had? It's because he sacrificed speed and agility for power. Goku and Vegeta both realized this, and it's why they chose to pass by that form in search of something better.

If strength was the only thing that mattered you would not see huge guys losing to small guys.

>> Anonymous
>>101784

>> Anonymous
>>101772

Most powerlifters really aren't though. They're just fat guys that try to equate their adiposity with muscle, because it's easier to rationalize than to do cardio.

Also, if you want to check out some non-functional strength, why don't you take a look at some of the black and white pictures of Arnold Schwarzenegger squatting over 400 pounds with his useless, showy muscle?

But then again, it doesn't matter, because strength isn't the issue here. It's your body image, fattie.
>> Anonymous
In a fight, the most important things are, IMHO:
1. Endurance
2. Strength
3. Speed
4. Technique (if you have any)
>> Anonymous
>>101801

I think that Strength is an absolute number one in most martial arts. But that's just my opinion.

But this thread is about the styles we train in. I do krav maga and have done boxing.
>> Anonymous
>>101780

It's a little muddled. There are two stages between SSJ and SSJ2. The first one is just a power boost with a bit more bulk, which Vegeta did use against Cell. Trunks went even further in his fight, which caused even greater bulkiness, to the extent that his speed was very inhibited. After he gets beaten, Trunks realizes that the loss in speed must have been the reason that his father didn't use the second stage.

Goku achieved both stages, but he chose to not use them at all.

Why the stereotyping of both powerlifters and bodybuilders? The only fat powerlifters are the "all-out" powerlifters who use their fat to an advantage. No it isn't a cop-out for bad dieting and if you think about the effects of added padding during a squat (where your gut hits and bounces off your thighs) you can see why some guys prefer the added layers of fat. There are, however, more lean powerlifters than there are strong bodybuilders. Quote me on that.

I've done Kyokushin karate (Oyama Family Organization), for 12 years now. I've fought internationally twice now, and have been a national category champion multiple times.

The only other combative art I felt the inclination to train in has been genuine military krav maga - not the soccer mom defense kind.

I live in Canada, for the record.

because I thought I remembered Vegeta getting unneccesarily huge at some point. IIRC, didn't he use his hugeness to kick Cell's ass, and then let Cell eat one of of the androids (I can't remember if it was the first or second - I think it was the second) and his hugeness became a problem? I haven't seen this shit in ages

I think it really just depends on the fighters. I mean, in some fights where one guy is XBOX HUEG compared to the other guy, he demolishes him.

Then, there are fights like one of the gracies had (where he fought a former Mr. Utah) and demolish the bigger guy

I was gonna leave this thread alone, and I know that if anyone gets proven wrong on 4chan they say "LOL TROLL'D", but...

>In a fight, the most important things are, IMHO:
>1. Endurance
>2. Strength
>3. Speed
>4. Technique (if you have any)

This is a good list, the only changes i'd make are:

1. Endurance
2. Speed
3. Technique
4. Strength

Although having said that, there's still many cases where it can be proven wrong.

For example, someone fast enough to throw a knockout punch before they take any hits - no need for indurance at all

Only thing to say now is that you can't make a bunch of definate rules about fighting, because every single case and fighter are unique.

Also, there's more to a fight than the physical contact - there's also the psychological side of things where, lets take the case of

>And I'll feel better about being able to beat a fake-muscled faggot in a fight. Cheers!

Someone who looks fucking ripped will always have a psychological advantage because most (remember, you can't have any definate rules) of the people who see him will think "fuck, i wouldn't wanna fight him..."

end.

I've been training in Taekwondo, Hapkido, and Kuk Sool for 6 years in this one school and in MMA in this other school for a year now. I've dabbled in a few others enough to know how they generally work but not extensively enough. On the extra curricular side, I trick with my friends and perform at Break marathons to raise money for charities.

I'm more of a striker/kicker and I'm 5'11" with lean muscles (mostly in the legs) and I'm very flexible. I'm working more on my weaknesses and I've been told I'm improving in my boxing and grappling. I hope to someday compete in various martial arts tournaments and a few MMA competitions.

Krav Maga, 4 years counting, plus two trips to Isreal for training camps. I'm not going to say its the best martial art, but I feel safer for knowing it, which is more than I can say about the time I wasted trying to learn Karate.

LOL, not really. I just did it for kicks. Its a very intense environment, they basically make you beat the shit out of eachother 12 hours a day for 2 weeks. I learned as much doing that as I would have in a couple years worth of training. Plus, they teach you tactical shooting as well, which is cool, although not all that useful for me right now. Still, being able to say that you not only have shot an UZI, but that you know how to use one in combat is pretty cool.

What do you guys think of Shotokan KArate?
I always hear someone saying that it's not good/a waste/shit/whatever but I have been training it myself for about 4 years and have to say I'm still pretty fucking motivated. I'm not going for the tournament-karate since that really IS the bullshit you are talking about but rather the "true" meaning of karate. And that really has a really good influence on mind & body.

martial arts is for fitness only...if someone assaults you and you use martial arts to defend yourself then you're going to jail and/or getting sued (unless you're a woman). the best thing to do is avoid getting into fights altogether. not only that but if you are quicker than the bigger guy, you're just asking for the fight to escalate into something involving weapons. i'd rather be called a pussy by a bunch of losers in a bar than get hauled off to jail.

UECHI RYU here. I like the conditioning aspect of it. It's almost as if you are conditioning the muscle but instead it's that thin layers that separates it from the skin. So on the outside you look normally innocent, until someone tries to hit you anywhere and THEY get hurt :P

Of course that takes about 20 years to get to. It's sort of an Iron Shirt/Iron palm style.

>> Anonymous

Being a lot larger and stronger than your opponent.

Yeah, these will teach you to punch better, and probably to take a hit better, but if you're going to streetfight someone, it wont help that much.
>> Anonymous
>>105452

well i have been in quite a few streetfights with no training. about half won and half lost honestly and I am not a big guy. tone, in shape but not big. I just want to be more effective.

I trained Tae Kwon Do for awhile and was 8-0 in matches.

I've been in like 3 or 4 fights outside of official competition and didn't use anything from TKD for any of them. Admittedly they were pretty short, shitty fights, which I won by just being strong.

One kid I picked up and slammed into a driveway and the other tried, stupidly, to go in for a double leg takedown from about a mile away. I got low, he hit me around the hips and I wrapped him. He kept pressing forward, so I gave some ground, then just took us both to the ground. He was on top, but completely locked in as I had an arm hooked under his chin, an arm behind his head, and my legs locking his torso. Stayed like that till we were broken up.

So I guess that one there was a little balance type shit thrown in, but I didnt really rely on any MA training. Only time it really came in handy was in increasing reaction times and stuff. Blocks and shit we practiced. Some kid tried to choke me, again in a stupid way, with a front two handed choke, and i just knocked his hands away and punched instinctively, ended up hitting him where his collarbone met his throat.

Doesn't take twenty years if you do proper sanchin every day with the correct tensioning aspects and breathing. Also use weights while doing sanchin, nigiri game and chii ishi. Do your kote kitae every two to three days. Same with makiwara work every two to three days, and no freaking seikens.

Been doing proper sanchin consistently for about 2 years, got a strong body and strong strikes and blocks, almost getting that Bruce Lee physique.

I've been doing Judo for almost a year and started Boxing 2 months ago.

Honestly Judo is clear winner in terms of fitness, I've never been so tired in my life as after a few rounds of sparring in Judo and we do that every class. Boxing I have to wait a bit more before I can spar and thats in a different class so I doubt I will be doing it as often.

I'd like to take BJJ eventually but those schools are always so damn expensive.
