If you have a good fit, your 'sit bones' (ischial tuberosities) will be positioned such that they take your weight on the saddle, with very little contact on your perineum. Under those conditions, you can ride for hours. If you have a wide seat that holds your whole butt, you'll end up being about as comfortable after a few hours as you are in a coach-class airline seat.
