Hi /fit/. My boyfriend and I are trying to get more healthy and I could use a little help. He's about 5'7" and 160lbs, and I'm 5' 2" and 98lbs. He's looking to drop a bunch of weight and I'm looking to just tone up and be more healthy. I've already cut down our food portions and we decided no more sodas, does anyone have any advice like certain exercises we could do together? Or maybe some meals I can make for dinner?

I'll be the first and say: SQUATZ

But in reality, cardio like running and jump roping would be good. Don't just cut down your food portions, count your calories. Find an ideal weight calculator and calorie intake calc on google, and you'd have a good idea of what you should be aiming at.

Also: Lurk moar.

Seriously, anon here gives some awesome advice to other people. Some can be applied to you, some can't. Some will just make you lose the game.

If he wants to lose, you should probably suggest some HIIT (swimming, running, cycling...whichever appeals to him most) as well as maybe lifting a little to help build up his strength and boost his metabolism.

As for you, you should try lifting some weights.
In b4 you saying you don't want to get huge because shit like that doesn't just happen overnight.

I suppose you could lift together and just do cardio together, but in all honesty some couples get into big fights about that kinda thing so its up to you if you think you're different.

Thank you guys for your help! I had read a bunch of threads on here and many of them were helping people to bulk up and that's not what I was going for so thats why I posted in the first place. We have some 10lb hand weights, how many reps of those would you guys suggest? We're pretty poor and can't afford the gym :) On the subject of cardio, do you think rollerblading together would be a good idea? We don't have anywhere to put bikes. We want to do this together so that neither of us will get discouraged :)

I would say rep ranges are dependent on the exercises being performed. Basically it just needs to be intense enough for him to work up a real sweat; a higher volume of exercise with reasonably short rest breaks will promote greater acute grow hormone release, which is lipolytic in adults.
tl;dr - Keep it intense and high volume and he'll shift the weight.

As said many times here though, sort your diet out or you're just fighting progress.

With regards to rollerblading, sure why not? Just dont make it the only exercise you get; its not really very intense unless you choose to push it.

Thanks so much! We are doing as much as we can to sort our diet out (more fruits and veggies, no more fast food) and I'm trying to cook more low fat meals for us. Thank you for your help! :)
