I feel your plight. My boyfriend is stuck in the UK for his studies for at least another year.
I suppose you'd first need to evaluate how strong your relationship is. My BF and I are very close and always let each other know we're the best things that ever happened to each other. I don't see him cheating at all, but we're both also extremely open about sex and have added third partner of either gender into the mix in the past, so we both have a "I don't care if it gets too hard for you, you can fuck someone else, just stay IN LOVE with me" policy.
You probably aren't so open and fear him finding someone new, though. Don't let paranoia overtake you if you do feel this way, 90% of what you conjecture in your mind isn't going to happen at all.
Other than that, my best advice is to talk with him often. Online chatting has the benefits of being able to send newly taken photos or web camming, so it helps retain the personality of the relationship. I mean, web cams are cheap, you should both agree to buy one so you can have video chats. Talk about good memories and make exciting plans for what you'll do when you see each other again. It's hard at first, but soon the time starts flying by and you're together again. Even if it's only for 10 minutes a night, make sure you talk WHENEVER you can. If you don't communicate often, things will likely become distant and that's when long-terming fails.
Some more tips would be to set aside your free time to watch streaming movies together online. Here's a list of sites me and my BF use:
www.alluc.org http://www.watch-movies.net/ http://www.onlinecinema.org/ http://www.tv-links.co.uk/ www.movie6.net www.mogulus.com You can buffer them together and then count down so you start at the same time, and chat with him on microphone or text while watching. If you both have the same movie/show/anime downloaded already, watch those together (obviously better quality and no waiting for buffers).
