Good eats? Anonymous
The food laying around here sucks. It's almost all really unhealthy in one way or another. When I'm at the store, I can't think of anything good to get (and so let others do the shopping), and end up with a bunch of junk. When I go to eat something, I can't find anything even decently healthy.

So I'm compiling a list: things that are good to have on hand that either are or can be made into good, healthy foods. This includes avoiding processed foods, especially with added sugars/*-ose.

I'm just looking for a good base of foods to work with, recipes/etc can come later.

So I'm hoping /fit/ can help to make a rather complete list. Also, if you think something posted isn't all that healthy it would be nice to know.

Here's what I have so far:

Any fruits
Any berries
Any nuts
Oats/oatmeal
Eggs

Look at page 100 or so, 105-107 there is a list of foods that are healthy for muscle gain/weight loss (in the right proportions obviously)

It even lists the calories and etc. for you if you want to start counting them.

John Berardi's "Scrawny to Brawny" (stupid title, I know) contains a grocery shopping list. If nothing else, you could run over to a bookstore and write it down.

whole wheat pasta
spelt (pic related)
quinoa
beans
vegetables (specially leafy greans which can be very filling in large quantities and still have <50 calories)

I found this highly relevant list, with links to more info on each

Just to be clear about the *-ose, it's called the same sucrose/fructose inside fruits too. The point is avoid "refined" sugars. Which, of course, no one ever uses the word refined on the ingredient list. You just gotta understand if it's preserved/processed, in a box at room temperature, etc, those will be the refined sugars you're hunting to destroy. You'll inherently know which ones. pop tarts, superheated stuff, etc.

Fruits and vegetables such are OK, you can pretty much as you want of those. Fresh is best, baked is best. Frying is terrible, that creates the evil trans-fats. Virgin olive oil is good COLD, as in on salads to replace Kraft or whatever. Frozen/canned is better than processed, but if you can afford it get fresh. Fresh of course expires fastest, so that translates into shopping daily, or every few days, or something.

If it says just "wheat", as in bread, that means garbage. It *must* say "whole wheat". Stay away from those refined carbs.

Yes, good to clarify.

What does /fit/ usually eat? When you're raised on crap food, it's hard to think of what to buy/eat.

The muscle gain books are nice, but does that cover everything? I'm not doing heavy weightlifting.

>>Fruits and vegetables, you can eat as much as you want* jesus.

your list is missing lentils, beans (the kind you soak, not in cans), legumes. these will be the biggest pain in the ass, because we're all used to instant god damn everything. readjust your brain to account for time it takes soak.

i used to eat exactly like that, just surrounded by that left/right/center. was overweight. had fights with parental units, had to teach them, had to eventually live with they're stupid stubborn decisions and buy my stuff, and forbid them to throw out my shit. that's my corner of the fridge, yo. they started eating fruits everyday, so it only took a year of badgering though.

Just had roasted chicken (~20 g protein) and corn.
Mixed salad + some dried raisins with very little fat-free dressing

What are you talking about? Frying something in olive oil creates trans fats? Good lord, please look some shit up before posting advice like this. Trans fats are processed plant oils, you idiot. And frying isn't the processing.

This /fit/ idea was a goddamn nightmare. Please get rid of this unholy channel. Nothing but morons spreading very bad information on here.

sorry, wtf did was i thinking? the fragile fats break down by light, heat, and oxygen. The oxidation of the once harmless fat molecule turns it into a harmful substance to the body. High temperature frying causes rapid oxidation of fat. I think this also involves releasing free radical things in the body, which I hear leads to cancer.

Anyways, you're not saying frying is good, so certainly I the evil part remains intact. And trans-fats another different evil. I think the harm in that mistake is minimal. It's not like I said to chug trans.

You are viewing the /fit/ board, it must have something of interest or value to you. Learning and discussion is not a mistake. Please, offer corrections, not condemnations.

well what i ate when i lost all the weight i dropped (60lbs in 1 semester ~ 3 months) it was mostly tuna (in water) on wheat bread, brown rice, salad (no dressing), whatever mixed vegetables were available (dinning hall) 1% milk, and as much water as you can chug (at least a gallon a day aside from any more water i ate with meals)

broccoli is great for you but i can't stomach it (especially raw, it'll make me dry heave) but i'd still eat it if it was around.. usually i'd throw some marinara sauce on it so i could get it down.

(disclaimer: i also went to the gym to run for an hour 6 times a week and lifted weights an hour a day 5 times a week)
