I worked out day before yesterday. Just beginning an exercise routine.

Today I'm supposed to do the exercises again, but still have soreness. Is it safe/normal to exercise the sore muscles or should I rest them another day?

Soreness is fine it actually helps to do exercise, make sure you warm up probably.

As long as its not extremely painful

I second this, i'm just like you op, i went to the gym for th first time with my brother and he put me through a harsh routine and i had some muscle ache for a couple of days in my left shoulder, about an hour a go i thought fuck it and did some dumbbell shoulder exercises. There is now no pain at all. Basically if it's muscle ache, go for it, if it's joint pain then don't.

You can exercise the muscles, but don't put too much strain on them. Don't lift your maximum with them. Just eat the pain and do some light exercise.

best tip I can give, muscle soreness is ok, tedon soreness is a problem.

OP here. It's muscle soreness. Not that bad really. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to do damage.
