Fat, not muscle Anonymous
I don't gain muscle easy - admittedly I'm not doing much exercise BUT WAIT: that's not my point.

My point is, why do I not gain weight? I eat fucking loads (probably over 3k calories a day, that's a guess, but loads) and I've been drinking a high calorie shake (1.5k a pint with whole milk).

But I still don't gain weight. I know I wont build muscle without doing weights, but why am I not getting fat? I know people who eat half what I do, and get fat. Or people that get fat over Christmas, when their Christmas diet is like half as much as I eat normally.

Basically - why am I not getting fat, and how can I? This is more of an experiment, with the bonus of being able to turn the fat to muscle later.

PS: Don't search for "skinny boy" on Google - apparently that's a gay fetish. And the girls all looked weird, so here are some "skinny jeans".

Any way to get it to retain them?

I know most people would say "oh it's a blessing", and I know it's cool. I'm not desperate to be big, but I wouldn't mind, and it's annoying I can't. I'll no doubt miss my metabolism being this fast in 20 years when I get fat, but hey.

I've got the same thing.

I weighed 135-140 in high school, and I still weigh the same after 4 years of college. Beer hasn't even affected me.

I don't even exercise.

If it's any consolation, hyperthyroidism turns me ON.

There could be a couple reasons why you arent gaining weight.
1. You have a tapeworm.
2. You are eating organic and whole shit.
3. You are expecting to get fat too fast.

Also, fat doesnt turn to muscle.

It does with weight training.

I eat good food - home reared meats/eggs, home made bread, and cook everything from scratch really. There are plenty of calories in it, even if purely because of bulk - I eat A LOT.

I've been thin all my life, and eating a massive amount for most of it too.

Don't know about worms, no symptoms really. Don't really fancy checking my shit, but I suppose i could have a little peek everyso often.

No, it really doesn't. That makes no sense. Fat tissue and muscle tissue are completely different. If you weight train, you'll build more muscle, which will raise your metabolism and help your adipose cells lose fat, but you will not actually convert fat into muscle.

How common are tapeworms in the US? I thought that they only appeared in small children who have poor hygiene.

fat DOES NOT turn to muscle. this is one of the more stupid myths floating around. fat is fat, it turns to muscle as often as an apple turns to an orange.

why would you want to gain fat before you start building muscle?

start exercising now

They happen.
Especially due to the barbecue and raw-steak culture in the USA.
People eat their meat nearly raw and ingest living worm eggs.
Countries like germany require every peace of meat to be inspected by a vet (yes, every!) for parasites, which greatly helps reducing them.

You don't eat enough or exercising.

Here's step by step approach.

1. Find your BMR (base metabolic rate) it will give you the daily calorie intake needed to sustain your current weight. Multiplay by 1.4 or 1.6 depending on how active you are 1.6 being fairly active.
http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

2. Get a routine for diet and exercise.
If you eat more than the daily requirement then you will gain weight but if there is no exercise involved it will mostly be fat all around.

I suggest not to waste money on Milk. First it is expensive as a protein source. also Eggs or Whey powder give the best protein source for your money.
Here's a famous High calorie shake that some athletes/bodybuilder use.
-1 Cup Oats
-2 spoon Peanut Butter
-skimmed Milk
-Whey scoop (protein)
-Strawberries
this is approx 800Cals, 40g protein

Last but not least. drink ALOT of Water and get enough rest.

Some people are blessed and just don't gain weight at all, no matter how much they eat.

that's honestly what i thought before i started working out and eating right. i'm around 5'7 and was 117lbs and couldn't gain weight to save my life. but i started lifting weights and eating like a madman every 2-3 hours and gained weight dramatically.

nonsense.
People just don't eat right and sit around all day.

the people who don't gain weight from eating a shit ton of food, did you play a lot of sports or simply did a lot of physical activity as a kid?

I'm just going to guess I got my insane metabolism from trying to be the fastest kid in school and playing soccer till I was 12 - 13.

Around 13 I discovered the wonders of internet games. I ate shit from pizza bread covered in bacon bits to bags of salt and vinegar chips + dr. pepper all the time.

I'm 19 now and I hardly drink soda/pop anymore, but I still eat whatever the fuck. I haven't grown for shit, I've gained maybe 10 pounds over the last 4 or 5 years. I've learned the hard way to stay away from fast food in general, not because it makes you fat(doesn't work on me), but because it makes me feel like complete shit afterwards.

So ... is there anyone that really never did shit and eats a fuck ton while still remaining skinny?

When I don't eat right and sit around all day, I gain weight.
Are you suggesting that it's not weird for people to LOSE weight doing that?
>> Anonymous
meh I'm 5'11 and weigh 161 and can't gain any weight either. I want to weight 185 pounds damnit.

hmm, well, my background is about the same as yours. so there MIGHT be some correlation. but i got over the whole can't gain weight thing through my post>>3363

for people with fuck-fast metabolisms? it's pretty normal.

Preaching to the choir. Up until about 10th grade, did football, baseball, and cross country. Just pretty much stopped it all at once. 4 years later, cant gain a pound no matter how much I eat.

Is it based on exercise, then? If I do cardio and lift while eating the same amount, will I see a weight gain or will it just be static?
