hey /fit/,

can i get taller? if so, how?

I'm 17 years old, lean with slight build, ~125 lbs, and 5'7".

i'm asian born and raised the way good old asian parents would love to have their kids raised, so i tend to have fairly good posture etc. ALSO, in terms of diet--typical asian-american diet. at home, i eat LOTS of rice and noodles, and outside of home, i eat....meat.

in terms of exercise, i'm on the track team, blah blah blah. this means i do fairly moderate to intense cardio frequently, but i don't really do anything "height-sensitive" like basketball or...jumping over shit.

anyways, recently, i've noticed that i'm not the tallest person around, and i can see that really impacting picking up girls etc in years to come.

so here's the question again:

/fit/, how can i become taller?

Just to let you know, I'm a girl and I don't think it would bother me that much, especially since you're Asian. Short white guys look weirder.

Take your pillow out from under your head at night and place it under your knees. Your vertebrae should then straighten out and have room to grow.

I doubt that. Pillows are kind of gay.

i was wondering also if theres anything i can buy to help me grow, in terms of calcium supplements or anything. also, does playing excessive amounts of basketball and stuff actually make you grow taller?

lol will that really work? sounds more just like letting me wake up with...good posture.

OP, don't worry about it. Fellow Asian anon is here.

My parents are 5'2'' and 5'3'', and I was 4'11'' when I entered high school. I'm now a junior in college, and I'm 5'10''. Don't do too much weight lifting, as that can interfere with bone growth. Keep up the cardio, eat lots of protein. I also grew up with rice and noodles at home, so don't worry. Asians tend to grow pretty big when raised on an American diet, so you'll be fine.

5'5" Asian 19 yr old male here, when did u stop growing?
>> Anonymous
I'll be 21 in June, and I think I'm still growing. I was 5'8'' this time last year. I hear various things on when guys stop growing, but it seems to be 20-22. I think most of you still have time? I think part of it was that I never did any weight lifting prior to college; all I did was play tennis.

OP here again. thanks for the replies everybody OMG YAY LOL

how much does weightlifting interfere with growth? and are there specific ones i should cut out, like squat or anything? recently ive mainly been curling and benching, not squatting or anything alot.

also, just asking again, is there any kind of supplement i can buy to help along?

Eat better. I know it'll be hard especially if you have asian parents that are keen on tradition but lacking in common sense. I would know, I'm half asian and my asian mum is a fucking nut. Dad's white though, so I win every time. I'm exactly 6'.

Archaeologists have found that doors and stuff in ancient times were a lot shorter, meaning that humans back then were generally shorter than they are today. They have put it down to nutrition, as people today generally have more access to a balanced diet than their ancient counterparts and are therefore more able to reach their growth potential.

Weight training is perfectly fine while growing - the only negative effect is a slightly increased risk of wearing out your joints and tendons, but you should be fine as long as you do everything correctly.

The real no-no are hormone supplements. They will cause your growth plates to stop prematurely and stunt your growth.
