I need your help /fit/. I'm sure you get these posts 100 times a day, but hopefully mine won't be the straw that breaks the horse's back.
At the beginning of the summer, I had decided I wanted to lose about 25 pounds before the next session of school started. I was at 175ish to begin with, so I had a goal of 150.
Well, sitting here today at a glorious 197, something went wrong. I'm sick of myself. I can't live like this anymore. I hate looking at myself in the mirror. I put off taking showers because it means I have to take my shirt off. I've decided that weight loss and getting healthier is something I really need to prioritize.
I'm not really all the knowledgeable about the whole thing, so any input would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not a complete lardass or anything, but I do have quite a bit of pudginess. I march tenor in marching band, and for those of you who don't know, those weigh about 60 pounds and are suspended from my shoulders for 2-3 hours - however long the practice is.
My leg muscles (especially calves) are pretty defined. My upper body is not however. I have pretty sad man boobs, and a well fed tummy.
I have the option of going to a gym, but the more I can do at home the better. I plan on getting a pair of good running shoes (mostly because of marching band, but I would also like to start running). I don't really know a whole lot about weight lifting, so any input on that is good.
My diet is going to shift from sodas and taco bell to water/milk and a more colorful collection of foods.
Sorry if it seems like I'm writing a life story for you, I'm just trying to give you the best information about my situation that I can to get the best reponses.
TL;DR Fatfuck needs help looking halfway decent.
Pic related.

I recommend Tabata every other day or so for cardio, HIIT is also popular. You can google both of these for more info.
As for weights, your options are either go to a gym or buy some weights and a bench for at home, whichever you'd feel more comfortable with. If you're at a gym you can watch what other people do, get a personal trainer or whatever. If you're at home, you can work out how you want when you want.
www.bodybuilding.com is probably the best fitness-related site I've ever found, has articles about everything.

stay away from the lifts though

Thanks, I'll check both sites out.
Any reason why you said to stay away from the lifts?

just remember that cardio isnt the be all end all of losing weight, you HAVE to couple it with weight training

Yeah, I understand that - to a degree. But it will help, right?
