last i checked, dumbbells were dumbbells. As long as you a source of weight plates for them, you should be good.

a lot of people recommend buying the non adjustable hexagonal dumbbells. This is a little more expensive because everytime you add weight, you need to buy two more. However, they work well handles for pushups (which is one hell of a good exercise)

I have a set of the OP's dumbbells. The bells alone weigh 4 pounds each. Got the bell bars for $7 each.

The plates range from $1 (2.5 pounds) to $12 (20 pounds).

I also have the op's dumbbells.. they're ok, get loose a little too easily

craigslist used. I got hex dumbbells $0.59/pound for lots here in Canada. Don't get new, that's a waste of money. They go for double and triple that, but it weighs the same.

For you get the spindle-wheel pack with various plate sizes (combinable). If you can find/afford it, get a good METAL spindle wheel, the plastic ones are shit and can crack eventually.

I'm a lazy ass, I can't be bothered to respin every weight. So I spent several hundred dollars on a set. Depends what's most important for you.

Go to Home Depot, and pick up two 12+ inch lengths of 3/4" inner diameter (outer diameter is 1.0+") galvanized pipe, 8 hose clamps, and some sandpaper. Buy a bunch of those 1" hole weights off of craigslist. Put two hose clamps on each pipe, with a space large enough between to comfortably fit your hands. Sand down the ends of the pipes so the plates slide on easily, and add the hose clamps on the other ends. Viola. Two adjustable dumbbells for about $5 plus the craigslist weights.

I've done snatches and stuff with up to 40# on one dumbbell, so there's no worry about the hose clamps coming loose.

i had to look a bit, spread across a week or two. i was determined to get a damn good deal, and it existed out there, waiting for me to buy it.

the guy who sold me a major set had a pacemaker installed. he's forbidden to get his heart rate up. he just kept a 10 lbs hex weight "to play with someday"

people tend to buy alot of weights, benches and machines and never use them and tend to sell them for ridiculously low prices just to take them away.
