What's the deal with running? I was told *NOT* to do my 5 mile running workout more than 3 times a week, and to have weight lifting in between them.

But what if my goal is BODYFAT reduction? Wouldn't doing my run -5 times a week be even better for this goal??

Thoughts.

Oh yea I also want to kep running because it makes me feel good throughout the day :)

Lifting will significantly raise your metabolism... as will the increase in muscle mass.

You will burn off fat quicker if you lift and gain some muscle.

but what about the running part of the question? will doing more than 3 times a week be detrimental to the effort?

And yes I know lifting is important which is why I still do it. My main point is about how often I run

you were given good advice

It depends how hard you're running. 3 times a week should really be enough... if you're lifting properly (compounds with good heavy weight) then you need good rest days in order to gain strength and muscle... too much running is going to impede on that significantly.

3 times a week should be enough... any more and you'd be stopping your body from resting well enough after lifting.

anonymous is a faggot. run as much as you want.

But, if you want to lose bodyfat faster and not look like a total pansy when you're done... lift weights and run no more than 3 times a week. You won't get big or anything... so don't worry... you'll just have a nice bit of lean mass to show off as the bf drops.

Stress fractures.

You should still be doing cardio to lose the weight i.e. cardio 5 days a week, weights 4 days a week with rest between them. Alternating days of HIIT and weights could be a plan, i dont know.

Too many days of cardio and too many days of weights.

That much of anything is counter-productive.

If you really wanted to drop bodyfat... you'd lift heavy 3 days a week and run 2 or 3.

Cardio everyday has worked so far for me, bought 20kg free weights so i'm starting to develop a routine using both.

Why is it counter-productive alternating the days?

Not giving your body enough time to recover from your previous sessions. Its hard to accept, I want to run and lift weights every fucking day. But I dont.

You can try running more than 3 times a week and see if you gain or lose anything from it. Experiment. Find out what works for you. If you see negative effects, stop. You see gains, keep doing it. But don't over to it.

I was posting under the idea that it would be better for the OP's bf loss if he put on a good amount of muscle mass first. Putting on a good amount (not xbawx) on mass requires a person to abstain from too much cardio as it stops the body from repairing itself as it needs.

After he has put on a bit of mass (already burning a good deal of bf due to increased metabolism) he can up the cardio to end with a lean, athletic, pretty boy look.

Yea well once i got the weights i figured i'd track my progress of doing HIIT one day, weights the next, then HIIT. I'm only using 10kg each freeweights so i figure if i keep my upper body to 1 day, and lower body & HIIT to the next it should be fine.

Overall i think if i'm losing 2lb a week its fine, 3lb i'll let it slide but 4lb is too much and will need to re-organise it.

If you're morbidly obese... sure... You're going to be losing muscle mass even at 2lbs a week.

OP here. I will run 3 times a week. lift/interval 3 times, rest one weekend day.
