Jumping Anonymous
Alright folks, I want to be able to jump high, and I need to know how to do it. I don't think my legs can take outright plyometrics yet, so what I wanted to know is if there were any calisthenic or isometric exercises I could do. Also, would using something like a trampoline or those springy stilt things would improve how high you could jump without them? Pic kinda related.

With weights.

I think squats. Not a SQUATZ! post, I just think that doing squats by pressing up as fast as you can should help with your vertical jump. Makes sense, right?

Get butt, calf and quadracep muscle, cuz thats what u use and focus on explosiveness. Sprints and jumping with light weight will help.

squats, jack them up to 1.5 bw and you are ready for plyos. In addition, deadlifts, snatches and c&j.
pic related to jumping like a motherfucker from weight trianing

>>36853Sprint and jumps with light weight is a retarded idea until you have a very solid base of fitness.

the hamstrings as hip extensors are heavily involved in jumping, which is something that most people don't realise. sprinting as well.

heavy squats will help.

wouldn't that destroy some knees?

i tried to get on a scheme to jump high, i can currently jump about a metre and a half maybe more on a good day, and here is how i did it:

1. lots of squats (make sure you stretch afterwards and after you cool down aswell.
2. leg based pilates.
3. regular jumping practice (try running really fast and jumping off of things with a drop, this will greatly increase self esteem.
4. repeat for like a month or 2 with alot of intensity, but if shit apart from your muscles start to hurt, your doing it wrong and you need to rest.
5. posture makes perfect so remember when jmping to keep a straight back and shoulders back too.
6. last but not least, never do sqauts or leg muscle training with weight that you wont be able to handle. i cant emphasise that point enough

Marc Huster, freak of nature. I think he did a series of Adidas ads that were just him jumping.

The best jumpers I've ever known got that way from tons of work, and the simplest of exercises. Jump on and off of a curb - a lot. Then move up to a bench. Repeat about 25 reps, and increase as needed. Don't fall when working on the bench, it hurts.

Michael Jordan said that to train to jump the way he did, he would grab two 40 pound dumbbells, hold them in each arm and then step up onto a chair using just one leg at a time.

So stand with your right leg on the chair, left leg straight on the floor. Lift yourself up using just your right leg until your left foot is even with the right. Slowly lower down and repeat.

It is hard as fuck to do this exercise when you're first starting out, so don't even bother with the weights until you're ready.

Squats, jumping squats, low pulls, high pulls, cleans and snatches.

Then, eventually
Pistols and finally jumping pistols (by this point you're a freak)

i have been able to do pistols ( i assume they're one legged squats) since forever even before i started doing weights.
