A high school drop-out, Zancai formerly worked as a contractor before suffering a work-related injury in 2000 in which he fell a distance of 25 feet (7.6 m) before landing on his back.[1][4][2][5] Zancai spent 23 days in a coma and 17 days on life support as a result of the injury, and he continues to receive a monthly disability cheque from the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board.[1] Zancai initiated a strenuous self-rehabilitation program in response to his injuries.[2] He developed a routine of doing pushups, working up to the point of performing thousands of pushups each day, attaining the physique of an amateur body builder.[5][4] As a result of the injury, Zancai still suffers occasional loss of feeling in some parts of his body despite the fact that he has restored mobility in his limbs.[4]

....On the contrary, Zancai's lawyer has stated that Zancai is "entitled to be as strange as he wants to be," and has defended his right to make use of public spaces for doing pushups.[1]

Zanta was quite the interesting person to talk to if you ran in to him on the street, but not when he was in a showboating mood (or in character, as he would say). If you caught him when he was low-key, he seems to be a quite a well spoken and intelligent man. I had a conversation with him around two years ago about his aspirations to become the Mayor of Toronto, and he seemed quite sincere and dedicated to his cause.

Unfortunately, he was banned from the TTC (public transit to the non-Torontonians), and all of the downtown core. Police were ordered to arrest him on sight for suspcion of public mischief (even if he wasn't wearing his hat or doing his entire pushup and "yes yes yes!" routine). The last time I saw Zanta was around Christmas two years ago. He was doing knuckle pushups practically naked in -10 Centrigrade weather outside Mountain Equipment Co-Op. The last I heard was that he was threatened by numerous people (including a judge) and chose to leave Toronto rather than be subjected to their form of justice.
