Hey /fit/ I have a question and hopefully someone can help me out.

I lift and do cardio in the morning. After that I go to work, go home play some video games then go to sleep.

During the the day I also take whey protein supplements. I have a shake in the afternoon and when I get home.

This is my question. Since I am inactive for most of the day beside the morning time, will the whey protein become fat so I am being counterproductive?

So long as the protein is in proper serving, there is no problem with however much protein.

Protein does not turn to fat any more than carbs, so why not say the same concerning carbs? You could eat 20% fat, 20% carbs, and 60% protein while either cutting or bulking... just be responsible about portion size--as you always should.

Personally? More protein has always been better, and that includes way over the guidelines.

The human body is not able to turn protein into fat. Only carbohydrates can be turned into fat ( and that fat can not be turned back into carbohydrates ).

by "any more than" I meant carbs do turn to body fat, but protein is not worse than carbs in turning to fat.

In fact, protein has a thermic effect that causes 30% of its calories to be wasted during the conversion to blood sugar. Once it becomes blood sugar, like blood sugar from carbs, it can be stored in adipose tissue if not immediately used. But first a huge amount of its calories is lost in the conversion process.

Protein is the least efficient macronutrient, which from dieting standpoints makes it an ideal staple of the dieter.

Note also, that protein becomes blood sugar if not used to repair muscle tissue. This blood sugar can, like all glucose, interrupt keto diets. That is why keto diets need to be at least 65% fats. Protein has a carb-like effect if not used.
