I'm not sure if this is the right board for this or if there's even a right board for this at all, but I thought since this topic is "health" related, this might be the place to put it.

Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone knows of any surefire ways of treating acne. Here's some background info: I'm a 20 year old and I've had this shit non-stop since I was like thirteen. It shows up on my face between my neck and forehead and also heavily on my chest.

I've tried everything: changing my diet, over the counter washes and creams, perscription strength washes and creams, a laundry list of or and topical antibiotics including tetracyclene and even acutane which is supposedly the most powerful acne medication on the market (it actually worked, but it damaged my liver so I had to be taken off it after only a few months).

I'm at my wits end. I don't understand why I keep getting this horrible shit all over my chest and face. I'm a clean person with good hygenic habits, yet I see motherfuckers who shower like once every two weeks that have flawless faces.

Does anyone have any useful information that might be useful to me in dealing with my acne situation?

I'd appreciate any help.

There's this new stuff by Clean & Clear which contains 2% salicylic acid which I've been using and it works great

also, try tetracycline from your doctor.

have you tried to not use anything for a while? Just clean with soap where it really matters, pits and the like, and let your skin regain some balance. You could try that for a week and see if there are any differences. I personally have found that plain soap plus a lotion afterwords works pretty well too.

This is what worked for me. I've said this before and gotten flamed for it, but oh well:

1. take two showers a day, one in the morning and one at night. Your face needs to absorb the moisture from the showers.

2. every morning and night after each shower: wash face with cleanser, then apply benzoyl peroxide to entire face, then apply moisturizing lotion to entire face.

3. Drink at least eight glasses of water a day, and don't drink anything else except for the random juice. Coffee, energy drinks, sodas and anything with caffeine or corn syrup are death sentences.

4. Eat healthy. That means three full meals a day or six small meals a day, with fruits and vegetables during each meal.

5. Exercise daily.

6. Don't masturbate.

Whoa whoa whoa, moisturize THEN apply the benzoyl peroxide. Also, wash face with soap after each step (ex wash face -> cleanser -> wash face -> moisturizer... etc).

Acne has nothing to do with caffeine consumption.

soap dries ur skin out and your skin produces more sebum to moisturise it. moresebum>moce acne.

use phisohex not soap. benzoyl peroride is great.

go get some more accutane

OP here, thanks for all the responses.

As I mentioned in my post, I've already tried tetracyclene (it worked at first but then I guess I gained tolerance and the acne came back strong as ever) and I've been using stuff with 2% salicylic acid for years to absolutely no avail

:[

Yes, I've tried that a few times in the past, but either it just stayed the same or got slightly worse. Also if I'm not constantly using acne products on my face I will get ridiculously oily skin, which is pretty gross in and of itself. I'm not sure if that's caused or exacerbated by my constant face washing, though.

>>120337

I do all of that except for excersize daily (I do it a few times a week) and I masturbate fairly regularly (once every 1-2 days). I fail to see what either of those have to do with acne. Could you explain, please?

>>120357

The doctors said I'd probably get liver failure before I could finish the acutane treatment.

>>120383

I have a pretty balanced diet and I eat lots of fruits that contain vitamin c and I eat meat fairly regularly, so I get quite a bit of iron and zinc. Should I get supplements, though?

I don't usually eat sweet things and by carbs do you mean simple carbs or just carbs in general?

also, I'll look into getting some sandalwood soap.

Do you consume a lot of milk or other dairy products? For some people, dairy is very bad for the skin.

I've generally cut milk out of my diet, but I'll have a glass every so often. When I do, sure enough, within a day or two I can expect a blemish to start forming.

no, I stopped drinking milk for that very reason.

the only dairy I consume is the occasional ice cream in the summer or cheese on like a sandwich or something.

Have you ever considered the candida diet? Candida can cause folliculitis which can often end up looking like acne (that never really seems to go away.) The candida diet works because it requires you to stop eating foods that would foster the yeast growths. Sticking to the diet is pretty hard though... it's vital to adhere to the guidelines strictly in order to see results, and depending on how bad you have the candida, you may be on the diet anywhere from 1 to 3 months.

I diet that causes stuff that looks like acne to appear on my face and it never goes away? I don't think that's the diet for me. Man, I hope I just misunderstood what you wrote.

>>120471

No, you go on the diet to get rid of the candida, not cause it.

Apricot Scrub does fucking wonders. Use it. Breathe it. LIVE IT.

did you have this? i think i have this :<

Okay, I read up on it a little; apparently this candida stuff is caused when you take certain anti-biotics and it kills helpful bacteria in your system and candida (what this bacteria eats) proliferates throughout your system.

The problem with that is a) I haven't taken any kind of anti-biotic since I was 16 and b) The doctors have diagnosed me with acne vulgaris. Now, I know that doctors can make mistakes but I've recieved the same diagnosis from three different, completely unrelated dermatologists, so while I may very well have a skin condition caused by candida, I think the chances of that being the case are pretty small

>>120481

Is that like some bath and bodyworks kinda thing? Is it just any scrub that has apricot in it?

ZERO CARB DIET AND CANDIDA DIET ARE THE SAME THING

go on it, OP. or continue to be a pizzaface

OP here:

Oh, shit I take that back. I was doing some interweb research on that stuff and I read this:

>> "Superficial staphylococcal folliculitis is quite common and is seen in people of all ages. It is probably more common in those who have eczema and diabetes. You might see it on your face, scalp, upper trunk, buttocks, or as a sty on your eyelids."

other than the buttocks part, that's basically me down to a tee.

also wikipedia says:

>>"Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. The condition may occur anywhere on the skin."

that makes sense because like I mentioned the area around my mouth has quite a bit of hair and the area around my neck and under my chin has hair too and it also has pretty bad pimples. Also my chest is quite hairy as well and it has the worst pimples of all.

Fuck man... maybe all this time I've been doing all this shit for nothing. Maybe all this time I've just had a really bad staph infection on my face and chest.
