You DO NOT need 2 grams per lb. 1 gram per lb. is sufficient. In general, you need to eat more. Get 5 meals a day with 400-700 calories each. Protein and complex carbs are the most important, but don't neglect fats. They are actually good. Though you want to take it easy on saturated fats, and get as little trans fats as possible. Refined sugars are your enemy, and you should have as little as possible. Aim to gain 1-2 lbs. per week. Invest in an accurate scale and weigh yourself once a day, same time every day, with as little clothing on as possible.
As for the brand of protein, I would ask the guys at vitamin world or GNC. The generic is cheapest and sufficient but you might want something a little higher end. I take 1 scoop/day of Probolic and I'm happy with taste, texture, and results. It's $32 for a 2 lb. bottle. About 28 servings
