I can't do a full squat, tips? Anonymous
No matter what I do I can't get my calves to make contact with my hamstrings before going onto the balls of my feet. My back form is perfect, I don't bend forward and I keep the natural arch all the way down, but I can't go into a full squat without going onto the balls of my feet.. I'm at 300lbs now (light weight, I know) and I'm hoping that going onto my toes won't cause any problems.

I have two questions

1. Is squatting 350-400 lbs while being on the balls of my feet dangerous?

2. How can I increase my squat depth and keep my balance while staying on my heels?

spread your knees

take a little wider stance?
And don't get it all on your balls, you might lose balance.

I thought that I was only supposed to go a shoulder's width apart, otherwise I would be cheating myself.

Is it really ok?

pistol squatz. get your ROM up doing then with a bench behind you without weight. google one leg squat

It's not cheating, in fact with a wider stance you'll have to use your hips more instead of your quads, it can be quite harder.
Also it really depends on your anatomy, shoulder width is just rule of thumb. If you got long thighs you'll prefer a slightly wider stance.

I believe that it is your heels that should be shoulder width apart, the rest of the foot can be further out.

Toes need to be in line with knees. You can't point your toes out wide and then squat with your knees narrow.

I would bet on my life that noone on /fit/ could do 300 lbs ass to ground legitimate back squat for reps.

I wouldn't bet on my life, but lol @ him saying it's light.

Before you argue with this, post a video of the squatting with irrefutable proof you're from /fit/ or GTFO out.

Thanks.

If you can't do a full squat, it's because 1. you're doing to much weight. and 2. YOU'RE ON THE BALLS OF YOUR FEET. You going on your toes is the exact reason people don't do full squatz, it's the reason that people snicker at you behind you back when you do squat because when you do lots of weight, with shitty form it makes you look like a major douche.

Well, according to most powerlifting federations, they go wide stance, and hit parallel, or slightly below.

That's how I squat, and if you want to compete in compeitions, i would advise you to do the same, otherwise, try and get more flexible.

I lift with a guy who is the exact opposite, who can't hit depth without at least 300 pounds on his back.

Also, the reason most people don't go low is because they are bitches, not because they go on the balls of their feet

If you're power lifting it's pointless to go full squat.

Not if you want to focus more on your quads, which is what ATG squats do.

especially useful if your hamstrings are much stronger relative to your quads

for anyone who has a strong back, but weak legs they`re useful, nobody`s MAIN exercise should be a full range squat... also... i can do 300+ lbs for reps...and...uh...i`m not going to post a video, so suck on my balls
(op, strong sqwating!)
