Ive got some fat on my stomach, not too much but 1-2 inches. I can stick to anything, i've got weights in my house and I can start running. What would be the best way to get a flat stomach, with little toning?

Please /fit/!

Strict diet is the only way. 6+ meals a day at regular intervals...absolutely no sugars (except for fruits). Good diet foods include nuts, lean meats (white meats are the best), vegetables, and anything else high in protein and fiber, but low in sugars. Eat as little flour as possible, unless it's 100% whole wheat.

As for the exercise, here's what I do. Experiment with exercises and see which ones you enjoy (if you're going for just looks and not fitness, don't worry about running). Try to stick to moves that include several joints at once (no bicept curls...stick to squats, push ups, pull ups, bench press, lunges, etc.).

Once you find a good list of exercises that you like, randomize them and do them every other day, so no day you do the same set/order of exercises.

In the end, it's all about strict diet and randomized strength training.

It doesn't matter how many meals you eat per day, your body doesn't give a shit. And he COULD eat whatever food he want and still lose the weight, it's all about how much he eats. If he wants to eat some fucking chocolate he can do so, as long as he compensates it with eating less later. No matter how stupid it may be in the end that's all that matters: calorie intake < calories burned. That being said even though nuts have good fats that doesn't mean you can eat nuts all the time, they're still packed with calories.

Not saying you're wrong or anything but just felt like correcting that, 'cause especially the "6 meals a day" thing is an old, stupid myth.

Yo bro, your body doesn't go to bed at the end of the day and run the numbers. It doesn't stop there and say "okay let's see, I needed 2200 calories for the day and inside of me right now is... 1700. Great, time to drop 500 calories worth of stuff to fund this!"

Your metabolism is ALWAYS at work, and when it isn't (due to no food in it), then it's not doing jack shit except maybe eating away at some fat and more muscle. The longer you wait to eat, the more muscle that's being eaten away. Granted, fat is being metabolized in those times as well, but not a whole lot.

In your way of thinking, you could starve all day long and then just eat 2000 calories right before you go to sleep. All of that will be eaten up in a few hours, probably not even half of it, and you know what happens to the other half? Stored as fat. So in the entire day, you've burned some fat, burned some shitloads of muscle, and then stored way more fat than you've burned.

And eat well. Try to get enough meals in the day, do not starve yourself, and get enough protein (along with nutrients. Eat your goddamn veggies.) You typically want a 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat split. You should try sticking with this for 6 weeks and then go from there.

You will not "bulk up".

Studies using whole-body calorimetry and doubly-labelled water to assess total 24 h energy expenditure find no difference between nibbling and gorging.
-Br J Nutr. 1997 Apr;77 Suppl 1:S57-70.

Energy balance was affected by neither meal frequency (6vs2; P=0.88, 6+vs2+; P=0.50) nor a morning fast (P=0.18).
-Int J Obes Relat Metab Disord. 2001 Apr;25(4):519-28.

Since the 1960s, epidemiological studies have reported an inverse relationship between frequency of eating and body weight, suggesting that a "nibbling" pattern could help to prevent obesity. This notion has later been put into question by the recognition of a high level of dietary underreporting in overweight individuals. In addition, no difference in total daily energy expenditure has been documented as a function of daily meal number. Weight loss is not facilitated by high meal frequency.
-Scandinavian Journal of Nutrition, Volume 48, Number 3 / October 2004, Impact of the daily meal pattern on energy balance.

Unlike you, i base what i say on facts.

That fat is hard to burn, for sure. I have it. Otherwise, I'd say my body is damn near perfect.
I figure if I just continue to exercise, it will eventually go away.

I really think it has something to do with a mostly sedentary lifestyle. If you make it a point to exercise everyday, and hold yourself to it, you should be seeing a difference eventually.

Note that you could do a million sit ups and it could stick around though. I have a ton of muscle in my abs, but there is a little bit of fat over it.

Other than consistent exercise, I really don't know what to tell you. I am a believer that you can eat just about whatever you want in moderation.
