I HATE sit-ups /fit/, but seeing as how I want at least some slight ab definition, I have to do them. I hve come to kindly ask your advice though.

Is there a different or easier way to do situps? I have had previous back and neck problems, so it hurts after doing a few.

If not, is there a video or instruction guide on how to do one perfectly, and to try and prevent back pain? (I'm rather sure I'm doing them right, it's just from my previous injury that makes it hurt.) Should I try an exercise ball or any of those things.

How many should I do? I try to do at least 3 sets of "stop when it fucking hurts" I don't really count them. Thanks!

stop pulling on your head, and brace your abs so your TVA is engaged. google it

When I do crunches (I'm probably wrong) I only gently touch the tips of my fingers to the back of my head, this way you can't pull on your head like if you rested your head in your hands.

That's a goddamn crunch, and a bad one at that.

Start with just doing crunches.
A crunch, curl-up, or sit-up as I do it for the military is hands crossed on shoulders, elbows out. Go up until your elbows hit your thighs. Lower yourself slowly and with good form.

Do this until your back, neck, and abs are strong enough to do full situps.

You will need to do a lot of reps.

1) Grab onto something so you're hanging in the air
2) Straighten your legs and raise them to parallel with the floor, then lower them slowly.
3) Scream in pain as your abs rip themselves apart.
