Try to not eat past 7 PM ideally, 9 PM at the latest. And if you do, don't let it be more than 150 or so calories. Just make sure you haven't ate 2.5-3 hours before you sleep.
The best plan of eating is a large breakfast, medium lunch, and small dinner. Should be 600 calories, 500 calories, and then 400 calories. In between meals, eat fruits and/or vegetables.
At the gym, do 30-45 minutes of cardio (treadmill, elliptical, bike), and then head for the weights.
These are all just some general tips. I don't know your body very well, but just tune some tips, like food, to what you need.
