Bicycle - 35% of body muscles used
Running - 55% of body muscles used
Rowing - 80% of body muscles used

Do you use it /fit/? And how long can you row? I row about 2,5 miles when I'm at the gym.
>> well fuck your shit !SvVHiVQG4I
This is idiotic. Running uses your entire body. If you actually look at the biometrics of sprinting, more energy is expended through the upper body keeping balance than the lower body propelling you forwards.

I think "sprinting" in the rowing machine is alot tougher than sprinting on the treadmill
>> well fuck your shit !SvVHiVQG4I
>>345435
Sprinting on a treadmill is.. Oh god, the rage.

Fuck treadmills and anyone who uses them.

Actually go outside and sprint as hard and fast as you can and you will absolutely expend more energy in a shorter amount of time than anything you could do on a rowing machine.
>> Anonymous
I like sprinting more.

Good point OP.

I prefer swimming when it comes to muscle usage percentages.

This is what happened:

The OP stated that running uses 55% of your body muscles, and is inferior to rowing, which he claimed uses more. I called him an idiot, and then proved my point, while he got butthurt and started saying non sequiturs.

Are you still confused? If you need me to explain it again, just hit F5 and reread this.

harasser here. not even op.

just that

1. you can't tell the difference between sprinting and running
and
2. you are talking about energy whilst op is talking about muscle percentages.
>> well fuck your shit !SvVHiVQG4I
>>345504
I was talking about energy expenditure as an example of the fact that running, and especially sprinting, uses every single muscle in your body (100% of them). If one person is running for a given time at the exact same intensity that another person is rowing for a given time (assume these people are exact clones), the runner is going to expend more energy because he is using more muscles and doing more work.

And by rowing, I assume we're talking about at the resistance by which you travel over water, as opposed to weighted rows.

i personally think that you are a fucken stupid tripfag... but i agree with you on this one, running uses 100% of muscles, people that prefer rowing over runing are fuckin pussies without any endurance whatsoever.

I don't run outside anymore because I don't live in a very pedestrian or jogger-friendly area.

BAWWWWWWWW

because on a treadmill you're not pushing off against the ground. its almost like leaping

According to Wikipedia:
Lack of wind resistance makes running on a treadmill easier than it would otherwise be on an equal elevation grade outdoors. Training for outdoor races is complicated due to the subtle differences.
Imposes a strict pace on runners, giving an unnatural feel to running which can cause a runner to lose balance.

what kind of warmup and stretches should I do before starting a new running regimen or a rowing regimen?

>Imposes a strict pace on runners, giving an unnatural feel to running which can cause a runner to lose balance.

Next time I fall off a treadmill, I'm going to quote this in order to prove it was the treadmill's fault for disrupting my innate sense of balance.

Rowing on an ergometer ? rowing on water
>> Anonymous !ErY2TknG0w
I often used to do 10k rows. Rowing really takes conditioning, technqiue and stroke rhythm for you to be effective. Moreso than running.

Rowing overdevelops the quads compared to the hamstrings though, that is if you're rowing properly. Muscle imbalances are bad, mmkay?
>> Anonymous
hell yes, i've been waiting for a thread like this for a long time. Rowing is by far the best type of cardio for your entire body... I've been a rower since high school and there is not one day that goes by where i don't hop on the erg (rowing machine). The pounds fucking melt off once you begin rowing.

The drawback is...98% of people who use this machine have no idea what they are doing. Find someone who knows how to row and have them coach you for a week or two.

What about for just regular cardio? I think it's a good way to keep track of myself and run at a constant speed.

at the OP - if you have an erg or have access to one, use it. They are brutally effective at developing VO2 max and endurance, and they are completely low impact.

Find a coach or read up on technique before you go fucking it all up... thats all.

I own a beat up old Model C and use it every day.
