You should have some strength to build off of first. If you just go to the gym and bench 95lbs for 3 sets of 8, you aren't going to get anywhere with it. Get stronger first, then start bodybuilding and you'll see much better results.

Power lifters train for strength and not looks.
Bodybuilders train for looks, but it also gives them a lot of strength.

Difference is that pound for pound a strength lifter is often stronger, but i would bet my ass on that a bodybuilder, if he used strength training methods he could be almost as strong pound for pound, reason i only say almost, is because strength lifters have had longer time in their game.

The difference is that bodybuilders plateau without strength training. There 1 RM is lower than pure strength trainers.

If you concentrate on strength training first, your going to become much stronger than doing a combination of the two. Thus, your bodybuilding results will be better once you switch from strength training to a bodybuilding routine. If your interested in bodybuilding, read them both, Ripp knows what hes talking about, and it will help prevent injuries reading his book and doing the exercises correctly.

In arnolds book "bodybuilding for men" or something like that, he also advices people on strength training first and then later you can start usering different "bodybuilding-orientated" split routines.
But there are differences in bodybuilding. Nowadays bodybuilders use 5-7 day splits, whereas arnold used 2-3 days splits.

I myself have gained a lot by using a 2day split. I think that the further you go as a bodybuilder, you probably need a lot more exercises or something.

But a bodybuilder can use whatever split he wants, there is no "real" or "fake" split for a bodybuilder. Just something that works better, and something that works like shit.
