Hey /fit/.

I'm female.

I just started working out in October. So far I've been going about three to five days a week.

I walk for ten minutes, run five and then go use the weight machines working on my arms and abs. Then I run for ten more minutes and mosey on home. This is about 45min-1hr at the gym.

I've only lost about 8/10lbs give or take... I used to weigh 162lbs now I weigh about 152/154lbs.
I don't eat very healthily but I have cut down on my eating a lot. I eat about 3 to 4 times a day.

My question is - am I doin' it right? Do you have any tips on my workout and/or eating habits? I would like to lose about ten more pounds by the end of December. Is this goal possible? Thanks for the help.

1) research better foods to eat. If you're REALLY into losing weight, become a calorie counter (and be TRUTHFUL in counting 'em). A friend of mine that used to weigh 260 now weighs 150, and DAMN he looks different (most of his old friends don't recognize him when they first see him since he graduated 2 years ago).

Very possible to lose that much by the end of December. Best way to do it is to keep doing what you're doing, but also alternate things up a bit - try different machines, do different exercises, and keep on running.

Also, on the note of eating unhealthily, don't drink any more coffee / soda if you do (hard habit to break sometimes, but almost ALWAYS shows results in a month or two), and have 1 "cheat" day per week (where you can eat w/e the hell you want - makes it easier to make it through the week eating tasteless / taste-bad foods that are good for you).

- cut fastfood out, nothing fried (its the grease that ups the calories: a BK stacker mushroom and swiss is 1,000 calories almost half of a persons daily calorie req.)
- more vegetables and fruits
- stick with lean proteins (chicken breasts, tuna, fish in general, lean cuts of beef if you have to, avoid pork)
- no processed meats (sausages, etc.)
- NO SODA
- aim for unprocessed grains (i.e. brown rice, brown bread... more nutritional value and your body works harder to break it down)
- more vegetables
- PORTION CONTROL: try to eat only as much food as can fit in your hand
- no candy or sugary shit/pastries/cookies/cut that shit out

you can eat healthy and be full. just get full on healthy food. also healthy food doesn't mean it tastes like shit.

your body needs nutrients and energy to rebuild muscles, keep you alive. give it good fuel instead of the usual rubbish people scarf down and you'll consistently see results from the hard work you're putting in with exercise.

EVERYONE needs to lift heavy weights to get fit. The only other legit option is doing tons of bodyweight stuff. (one leg squats etc)

Anyways, you need to increase your cardio.

Using the weight machines will not help you lose weight. Also, with the small amount of time you're spending on the treadmill, your body isn't geting the metabolism boost that a treadmill is supposed to give.

Try using the treadmill for a half hour right off the bat. So 5 minutes of 4.0 mph with a 3.5 incline.

Then, when the five minutes are up, do 7.0 mph for 20 minutes with a 1.0 or 0.0 incline. Then slow it down to 4.3 mph with a 2.0 incline for the final five minutes.

Then move onto your weights and stuff. Free weights are just as good as set weights, plus they also help build mobility.
