Muscle Soreness Anonymous
I started working out again yesterday (after years of not doing so), and now my body is sore. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Thats a great thing. Im finding it more and more difficult to get sore and its kind of dissapointing not being able to be in stiff pain the entire day following my workout.

Good thing. You will get accustomed to the workouts in a couple weeks. Just make sure to allow for rest days here and there.

When you work out you are actually hurting yourself in a small way. Your body will recover and rebuild from these tiny injuries and make things a bit better in case it happens again.

After months of breaking down your body and rebuilding it; you are now bigger stronger faster than you were.

Its natural to be sore after a good workout. It means you've successfully broken down muscle tissue for you body to rebuild. You should only be concerned if you don't recover in about 10 days (starting out; 7 days if you've been working out for a while).

Breaking down muscle tissue doesn't cause the soreness or else we'd all get sore after every workout, which isn't the case. It is the lactic acid buildup from your body going, "oh shi- I'm actually moving GET SOME OXYGEN IN HERE AND FORGET THE CLEANUP!" So you basically have pools of acid on your muscles until your body realizes that it doesn't have to go batshit when it is being strained.

Breaking down muscle tissue does indeed cause soreness. The soreness is an indication your body is rebuilding.

I kid, I kid. It seems lactic acid is responsible for the immediate burn felt during high intensity exercise.

Lactic acid build up has a much different feeling. It would most likely occur in your quadraceps after some form of extended cardio. It should also go away within half an hour whereas beneficial muscle tearing could last more than a day.

it's basically the result of your training after years of doing nothing. happened to me, happens to everyone. give it around 4 days of rest and the next time you work out you won't be as sore.
