Hi /fit/.

What are some lower back excersizes? I want it to be a little more developed but don't want to throw my back in the process.

I was thinking squats, but I honestly have no idea. Help me out ;] Thanks /fit/

throwdowns, lat pull downs, bent leg dead lift, come on man there is a bunch. Though on a good side I like your tan and shoulder-blades :)

heavy deadlifts. they build your lower back like nothing else. make sure you have the proper form though.

If you're not doing squats why bother working out?

you need some more wing too.

pullups are always good for that. for lower back i'd go with dead lift, but have an instructor help you with it so you dont fuck yourself up. bend over row would be a good idea too.

Dead lifts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You don't have to be as intense as Andy Bolton with his 1003lb Dead lift. But standard deadlifts will add thickness, density, and size to your whole back especially the lower parts that you want.
Speaking from experience here. I have a bulging disc that was thrown out from football, and also a surgery fixed left knee. As long as I keep good for I have no problem lifting 455 lbs for a set of 6. So you can do it too with some practice and a good form.
make sure you keep all of your weight on your heels, your chin up, your back straight, your mid section tight, and drag the weight up your shins. Good luck, have fun, eat right, and you will have your bigger thicker stronger back.

Whats up with that monkey grip people seem to use, with each hand facing a different way, anything to that?

That "monkey grip" is the proper way to hold a bar when are dead lifting heavy shit. If you can hold it with both hands the same way, good for you, but you will probably need to change to the proper grip when you add some serious weight.

with this grip when you lift, the bar rotation causes it to slip down on one hand, but go up the other thus giving better grip.

of course if you can do it with a normal grip then all the better. make sure you change over the hands to make sure both your traps are attacked properly.
