Does holding your breath from time to time do anything positive to your lungs or endurance?I read in a magazine with tips such as holding breath while going up elevator to train your lungs, I kinda wtf'd, but thought I'd get /fit/'s divine wisdom.
Whileyou're lifting it's usually ok, provided you don't burst a vein in your head or something.Doing it while running probably wouldn't help you that much though
If you did it enough it would probably increase the efficiency of each breath, but you'd have to do it pretty much non stop.

Getting rid of all your breath and pulling in ur stomach for 30 seconds helps training some core stomach musclesdunno about holding your breath
It helps when lifting. Especially in deadlifts and squats. Take a deep breath, keep it in, feel the 'air balloon' that forms in your abdomen, and lift. When lowering the weight, exhale.

>>413192just tried it, could feel it doing something to my abs but I'm not sure what, does this actually do anything for them?
It's good for swimming. Practice going underwater and working up to swimming the length of a pool with one breath. It'll train yourself so when you do normal strokes, you don't need to breath at much and make it more streamlined.
wtf? why would you hold your breath with exertion? do you want to burst some blood vessles like the guys in the worlds strongest man competitions?
I hold my breath when I do push ups for some reason...
The brain needs oxygen in order to live. If you hold your breath, your blood will start losing oxygen and your brain will suffer as a result. Even if it's just for a minute or so, if you hold your breath, you're essentially causing a small amount of irreparable brain damage.
>>413529So marines destroy their brain when they hold their breath for 7 min?
>>413568That explains why they're dumb ass shit
