ITT we talk about our squat PRs and goals, and generally about squatting, the best exercise ever.Today i squatted 175lbs for 100 reps. it took 45 minutes or so and i almost died and threw up.my weight happens to be 175lbs as well
and what was the point of doing that?
was stuck around 270x5 for a while, needed to do something retarded to promote growth
100 reps? enjoy your old man knees.
>>133342Because compound lifts like squats or deadlifts work your entire body. The enormous stress put on your body forces it to release hormones like testosterone and HGH and it will gain size overall. No need for puny isolation work if you lift heavy shit.
>>133344Some people put little planks of wood under their heels because they think it focuses the load better on specific muscles (I forget which ones, but I'd imagine the quads).Other people do it because they're pussies and can't go down without tipping over.I would say don't bother unless you're so pro you need to tweak your squats. And you aren't.
>>133342Also: by lifting heavy, you get real functional strength. That 100 pound sack of cement that broke your back last year? Lift it with one hand today.
>>133351k, thanks. Also, why do we keep our heels on the ground? Is it for stability or to reduce the chance of injury?
>>133355stability, prevent knee injury. How else would you lift 200 pounds on your back? On your toes? No, weight has to be spread onto your whole feet, with focus on heels.
>>133315what does that help ?
>>133349>>133352Thanks for the answer
>>133369In my opinion nothing.Your knee's cartilages are not really supported by blood vessels and grow very very slowly. If you grind that shit down it takes a long time to regenerate it, if at all.Arthritis is not nice.
Keep your heels on the ground so the wieght is spread to your glutes/hams and not your knees, where as squats are the best muscle building and fatloss exericse they are EASY to screw up. Watch these videos and learn everything you can about squatting properly. If dont correctly it should burn the hell out of your ass and hamstrings. http://youtube.com/view_play_list?p=C03D688F10C4DE1FRemember you sit into a squat and form your glutes and hams to take the weight. Going straight down kills your knees
Low Bar vs High Barwich ones minimizes lower back injury chance?
Neither should effect lower back injury if done properly, thought I will say low bar form is easier to mess up and people tend to goodmorning a lot more often out of a low bar squat
>>133344>>133351from what i have read on various websites and in books placing either small weights or a board under your heels focuses the outer portion of the quads and is used to shape the bottom of the quad muscle that starts above the middle of your knee
