I'm about to get all four of my wisdom teeth pulled later on today. What should I expect /fit/?

Ask them to prescribe you some DECENT pain killers. Store-bought stuff WILL NOT HELP YOU.

Also, if they mess up the operation expect a bruised throat for several months and excruciating agony every time you swallow.

I didn't fully recover for 3 months after mine. The pain meant I couldn't sleep and I also failed most of my exams.

Have fun, I'm sure it will be fine.

Recovering from a wisdom teeth operation was one of the most painful experiences of my life. You will be in agony. It didn't help that I'm immune to ibuprofen and paracetamol either.

Make sure you soak your wounds in hot salt water every night, it stops them getting infected. It will sting a lot but its better than the alternative.

Mine wasn't too bad, I did have 6 wisdom teeth though, so I had a surgeon do the op.

He also prescribed me T3's along with regular ibuprofen, so that helped a lot. Try and get some

First 2 weren't too bad for me. I got some good painkillers and some type of mouthwater I think. Had pain for 2 days, after that it was mostly just anoying because it hadn't healed yet so it felt kinda funny and sometimes bled a little. Took quite a while before it fully healed though (might be because they had to cut open quite a bit of gum because one of m hadn't surfaced yet).

But I believe I was fairly lucky, have heard lots of stories about pretty severe pain for up to a week. Anyways like another anon said, ask for a prescription of good/strong painkillers.

Guess it was a coincidence, not ringing any bells.

It wasn't that bad, but apparently I bled a lot during the surgery. That made me vomit chunky blood on the ride home.

Also, I didn't eat for like 5 days after the surgery because I was deathly afraid of dry socket.

I just had corrective jaw surgery, I have had wisdom teeth out before, it is nothing compared to corrective jaw surgery.

Oh fuck, I'm having that in a few months...

I can't imagine anything being worse than when I has wisdom teeth out though. The surgeon obviously made a mistake somewhere because he kept asking me if I was okay afterwards and he looked really worried when I wouldn't stop bleeding.

Go to a real doctor instead of the backyard operations the rest of the posters here seem to have visited. In 2008 getting your wisdom teeth removed isn't 1/10 of what everyone used to make it out to be.

I got all of mine taken out at once. Here's how it went. I went in to the office, watched some stupid movie about the risks. I sat in a chair, they gave me a shot. I started singing along with the radio. I blacked out. I woke up in a waiting room. I tried to say thanks to the doctor because I still felt fucking awesome from the drugs, but just spat some blood instead because I was an incoherent mess. Settled on a thumbs up.

They gave me antiobiotics, and antiobiotic mouthwash(to prevent the holes from getting infected)
normal ibuprofen, and hardcore painkillers.

I took one of the heavy painkillers as I was leaving the office because I figured shit would hurt once the drugs he knocked me out with wore off.

Nothing ever hurt. I sold the painkillers to some junky at work for over a 100$. I was back eating solid food and drinking booze by that night.

Make sure you take the antibiotics(all of them) or you'll get infected gums and be miserable.

TLDR:
Go to a real doctor. Get recommendations. Not everyone is talented. It won't be a big deal. You'll either get fun drugs to either take or sell depending on how you feel about popping painkillers.

I don't think you had your wisdom teeth out, enjoy making up health related stories on anonymous image boards.

Wasn't bad for me.

Go to an oral surgeon. They'll put you to sleep while they extract the teeth with surgical precision. You feel no pain while they do this, less pain later, and have faster healing. Much better than going to just some dentist who will forcefully rip the teeth out of their sockets.

I got dry socket when I had mine out. Basically, the blood clot that forms after the surgery somehow washes away, exposing the nerve. Holy fuck, it hurt. I just kept taking oxycodone, thinking it was supposed to hurt. I basically quit eating because it hurt so much and I got a 'death taste' in my mouth that would never go away no matter how much I brushed/rinsed.

I finally went in and the doctor told me I had dry socket and explained food had built up in the sockets and was now rotting, explaining the taste. He had to syringe the food out which was like briefly tasting death. Then he packed the sockets full of cloves. I had to go back and get this packing changed several times then when the clots had re-formed he took it out. I had to syringe out the remaining holes until they healed to keep food from building up.

tldr DON'T GET DRY SOCKET. Of course, you don't really have a choice but try to follow the doctor's precautions.

question- do i need them pulled out? they are growing in, and look sortof fine- eg there is room for them to grow
>> Anonymous
>>364807
You only need them pulled out if there's not room for them or they're coming in crooked.

Out of curiosity, what kind of anesthetic did you guys have during the procedure?
>> Anonymous
>>364869
general, its a couple of hours long, I thought it'd be easier that way.

My experience:

Went in, sat down, got the injection, woke up a few hours later. Never experienced any pain whatsoever from the operation, at any point, even afterwards. Thusly, I did not need the large amount of vicodin perscribed to me. I took it all a few weeks later and tripped balls.

Overall, a great experience.

I just had my bottoms out...I probably would have passed out if my dentist did all four. He shot my gums up with novocaine and waited about 10 mins til my gums and tongue were numb. Then he put a rubber thing in my mouth to keep it open. He began slicing away with a scalpel I believe to expose the tooth. It was being difficult so he drilled holes in it or something so he could get a better grip on the tooth. I heard a little ripping and tearing until it was out. Then he sewed it up. Then on to the second one! At this point I was sweating and feeling really shitty. I almost wanted to puke. But I made it passed the second one. He prescribed me Vicodin which saved my LIFE. But eating food is shitting. I could barely open my mouth. Just eat lots of pudding and liquids.

Goodluck

^ Don't be a sucker like this anon. Go to a specialized oral surgeon. Get general anesthetic.

Question. Why do you get your wisdom teeth pulled?
>> Anonymous
>>366070

+1.... get knocked out... it's crucial.

Also, takes lots of fiber when on the pain killers or you won't be able to poop... and god know we all enjoy our defecation.

>>366084

Uhh, so they don't impact your molars... some people don't have this problem and don't need them removed... I think they are a serious minority though.
>> Anonymous
>>366084
If they don't grow in PERFECTLY they will cause permanent damage to either your jaw structure or other teeth. They push all of the other teeth together if they grow in incorrectly, and in general that is a very bad thing.

Also, I had a twilight (half anesthetic) when I had all 4 of mine out. I only used 1 of the two week supply of Vicodin I was prescribed. Eating was kinda annoying, but I have been chewing mainly in the front of my mouth anyways, so I didn't mind too much.

Biggest thing to not do: Suck through straws, specifically after eating hot soup.

I had 3 dry sockets and those do suck.

I had absolutely no pain for mine. I didn't end up taking any of the pain killers they gave me.
I still stuck to soft foods just because other food was hard to eat, felt weird rubbing the holes.
