I fractured my spine when I was 17 (burst fracture). Recovered and now I am benching and squatting normally, although I experience slight back pain and phantom pain in my right leg. MRI shows the fracture as stable and solidified, so there is nothing to worry about really. Marijuana helps wonders, and incidentally reduces my exam stress (in uni here) as does creatine (shown to be neuroprotective in recent studies). >Should I be worried about visiting chiropractors? Stay the fuck away from them, seriously. They are NOT real doctors, and most haven't a clue what they are doing. Read the wiki on the whole practice for starters.
Stretching, swimming, marijuana, creatine are all avenues you should explore.
