NutriSystem, /fit/.

I know, I know, conventional /fit/ advice is to simply do it yourself, and I've been trying to follow http://www.iwantsixpackabs.com/articles/eating.html for a while. However, if NutriSystem does work, it'd certainly be a truly great help for me. Relatives have been recommending it and similar products for a while, and I don't feel close to proving to them that I can do it myself.

I have been overweight my whole life but only recently has it gotten really bad. I just can't keep myself from cheating and eating too much unhealthy food. I know that it's possible that I won't be able to stop myself while on NutriSystem either, but it's also possible that I would, right?

What do you think, /fit/?

I've found that every diet/lifestyle change really boils down to dedication, willpower, and perseverance. I too have been overweight for most of my life and only pretty recently started a lifelong change in the way I live and eat.

Getting to the point, something like nutrisystem would most certainly beneficial for somebody trying to lose weight, but if they don't have the fortitude to ignore other temptations it won't work. Even if you threw out all the other food in your house besides the NS meals, you could still break and binge on several meals in one sitting.

I'm not trying to break your confidence or persuade you one way or the other on this. All I'm saying is that you REALLY have to fucking want this. Look at yourself naked in the mirror or something and ask yourself "Do I like what I see? Do I want to be this way forever?" Decide not to just go on a diet, but change the entire way you live. Go for walks every day, keep a food journal, find healthy foods that you actually enjoy eating (cottage cheese FTW), and keep coming back to /fit/ for advice and motivation.

If you just promise yourself to take it one day at a time and fight as hard as you can to stick with it, YOU WILL SUCCEED. If I can do it, anybody can.

> I know that it's possible that I won't be able to stop myself while on NutriSystem either, but it's also possible that I would, right?

No, it isn't possible. You'd just have another excuse to do it. "Oh but I'm on Nutrisystem and therefore eat so healthily every goddamn day that it won't be a problem for me to eat this 5 kilogram tub of mayo today."

Learn some fucking willpower by rewarding yourself at set intervals. For instance, the next time you can have even one niggering sip of pop is when you lose your tenth pound starting today. Keep setting milestone goals.

Also, nutrisystem food is expensive as shit, loaded with preservatives, and not certifiably healthier than anything you could make yourself. I mean, for shit's sake. Anything that claims to be healthy that is sweetened with HFCS is a fucking scam.

Also, you're overweight because you're a failure at life. Not because life made you that way. People aren't born obese, so you haven't been overweight 'your whole life.' Stop with the excuses and just do it.

To quote from the pro-ana movement: "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels." So get working fatty.

It doesn't matter what you eat or what regimen you're on. Your problem boils down to this:
>I just can't keep myself from cheating and eating too much unhealthy food.

If you don't learn to control yourself, then you're never going to lose weight. It's plain as day. You could get a lapband surgery and lose god knows how many pounds, and then gain it all back because you can't control yourself.

True weight lose comes from a change in lifestyle and eating habits, and if you can't help but cheat then, sadly, you're never going to lose weight the way you should.

Dude fucking work out and stop drinking soda/juice/anything with sugar in it. Seriously, you will fucking loose weight, and you can still be a fatass and eat your double whopper with curly fries.

Guys, I've been to /fit/ before. I know the routine.

I actually only drink water, I don't have any sweets at all. However, when I'm required to cook my own meals:

1. They suck.
2. I wait too long between meals so that I get extremely hungry and cheat by ordering pizza or something.
3. I'm constantly second guessing myself on whether I'm eating too much, if I'm using too much olive oil, if it's OK to have fat free cheese, to have this cereal or that, and so on.

I know, self-control, willpower, excuses, etc. Those three issues would be addressed if I join NutriSystem. Would I still find reason to cheat anyway? I honestly don't know. But those three issues would be addressed.

I mostly just wanted to know if anyone has had or knows anyone who has had positive or negative experiences with NutriSystem. Honestly, I hate the idea of going on it, it feels bad to admit that I can't take care of food myself, but if it actually works for people then I shouldn't keep from trying it on principle if I'm not doing any better on my known.

How does signing up for NutriSystem give you willpower or self-control? Will it stop you from dialing the pizza place, or from grabbing random snacks whenever you pass by the market? You'll still find reason to cheat. It's one of the problems that we have (I've been overweight all my life as well.)

You should spend more money on food that is easily prepared and packaged so you can eat more often and have less hunger issues, as opposed to just trying to make someone else do it for you. It won't help. If you can't learn how to do it yourself, you'll never be able to eat properly.

I meant the numbered issues, not self-control et al.

you do realize you can only make a change if you're willing to do it?

you're obviously not there yet, keep being fat until you finally get the motivation. or just stay a fatty forever.

if you know the advice and don't apply it you're not trying.

fat ass.

Forget I even said I was fat. This thread is just about if NutriSystem is an intelligent option or not.

no. it's not. because it's not going to work with you. you're still going to cheat. you still have no self control, and you still don't have will power. shit like this is for people who have absolutely no time to actually prepare their meals, but don't want to end up eating nuked/fast food.

this shit won't work for you.

Bud, just because the commercial is wonders doesn't mean it works. You still need to work out, unless you just want to lose a shitton and gain nothin but hanging skin. I remember reading here that a uy knew a girl who went on nutrisystem and all she did was hoard it and eat shitty food as well. It's your fault your fat, just because someone else prepackages your food doesn't mean it'll shed off all your weight.

OP, i'm honestly sorry that I can't tell you that yes, this will work for you perfectly and you should go ahead and do it.

But everyone else has it right. :(

I don't understand how a person can watch the Nutrisystem TV spots and still want to give them money. When I do watch TV I watch the news and its almost every fucking commercial break that I see god damn Tony Orlando or Dan Marino telling me its 'food for real guize'. I'd rather be fat.

My Dad took nutri system for I think half a year (he's 60) and he lost I think 10-15lbs. But keep in mind he wasn't really exercising other then the occasional walk. I'm sure along with a good routine nutrisystem could yield results

i bet that just because of this post, OP will do nutrisystem and then come back to baww about it to /fit/.

I'm not saying it is the end all be all in diets because it can't be, but it has worked for someone I know.
>> Anonymous
>>260819
nah, I wasn't blaming you for it. It's just that when people who believe they can't do it alone find even one supporting argument in a sea of negations, they'll grab onto that and hold on to it for dear life. At least until they actually go ahead and try it themselves, and then realize what a waste of money and time it was.
>> Anonymous
>>260828
No worries, I myself would not waste money on it. There are better diets out there.
>> Anonymous
i really wouldn't do it OP, it seems like a hueg waste of money to me. if you are really having problems with cooking and whatnot then, you can make up your own nutrisystem-like program involving only freezer foods. I actually started out this way. i am now to the point i feel like i have taught myself how 2 portion control and so i cook my own damn food now and it's way healthier than eating the sodium-laden frozen foods. however, you can develop your own simple system of eating frozen meals (frozen steam-in-bag veggies, lean cuisine, lean pockets, healthy choice frozen dinners, or whatever is on sale at your supermarket this week). just eat one of these items 3-4 times per day and don't cheat. it's not actually that nutritious but as long as you eat less than your BMR you WILL lose weight.
