I know but i dont really have anywhere else to put it, also i dont really care what it looks like, its not like its going to rust to the point where it cant take the weight anytime soon anyway.

A get? In my thread? Its more likely than i think.
>> JESUS

I love you too.

I'm interested in getting one of those myself. Where did you get it, how much did you pay?
>> Anonymous
>>190028

I live in the Uk so i got one delivered from Argos (actually they are pretty good for this stuff suprisingly), i think it was about £80 or something.

The bar came from somewhere else, its a 7foot bar because at first i got the rack and realised my 5foot bar wasnt long enough, so i bought another one.
>> Anonymous
Try buying an Olympic bar, that bar is a piece of shit.
>> Anonymous
How is it a piece of shit? its a bar, made of metal, it either is or it isnt.

Stop talking carp, id rather get squatting than worry about what type of bar i should get.
>> Anonymous
www.dynamic-eleiko.com

I don't even know why I bother, you won't be squatting more than two-hundred pounds in your lifetime (like most of the other faggots on /b/).

Have fun squatting with the twenty dollar bar, dipshit.
>> Anonymous
>>190048

Lol, long metal bar elitism. How stupid.
>> Anonymous
Maybe if you actually lifted for sport instead of novelty you would understand the superiority of an Olympic bar over a standard bar.
>> Anonymous
>>190054
Yes, but i dont, so i dont need an olympic bar do i?
>> Anonymous
yes, fucking awesome. NOW MOAR SQUATZ!
>> Sponge !!5qxfxHYSQxJ
an olympic bar has magical properties that doubles the weight that is put on the bar whilst keeping the effort required the same. they are made of almost pure dark matter and are thus invincible to any breaks or bends, they will also help to remove any skin blemishes with their magic.
>> Anonymous
>>190076

Ah i see, now i understand why i should have got a different metal bar instead of the bar of metal i currently have.
>> Anonymous
>>190076
And in a pinch they can be used to pleasure a woman.
>> Anonymous
One advantage to a standard bar is you can use the weights on a standard dumbbell too.

One disadvantage is they are usually limited to 200lbs... so when you reach that weight, you'll either have to sell all the plates and bar, or start wearing a backpack full of sandbags and jumping when you do squats. I'm a tiny fucker, and I'm sticking to my standard... If I can ever bench and squat 200 at 5'6", I'll be quite content to stay that way.
>> Anonymous
>>190261

Op here: well yeah exactly, it was either buy this bar and use my existing weights, or buy a new bar and weights for like £200 - and if i can get to the point where i can squat 200lbs i'll know by then or not how serious i am about the whole bodybuilding thing and i can then buy a new bar or whatever.
>> Anonymous
>>190076
im noy OP but I'd like to know where to gte an olympic bar I've been looking for a while with no success
>> ZC !ZcFit7DWNs
>>190052

Not everyone lifts fucking baby weight. A bar like that would snap in half and slit your throat if you tried a 400lb deadlift with it.
>> Anonymous
Well im not denying that, what i am saying is for my needs that bar is fine, i can always upgrade it later.

What i didnt appriciate is some fag telling its a shit bar out of hand.

Who cares anyway, if i slit my neck ill let you know about it.
>> ZC !ZcFit7DWNs
>>190354
That's fine. Anyway when you bend the shit out of that bar or break it you'll feel like a champ. So that's a plus.
>> Anonymous
>>190261
I could squat 200 when I was fourteen.
>> Anonymous
haha, ill have to judge the timing right and make some sort of incredible hulk noise.
>> Anonymous
anyone with legs should be able to squat at least 200 no problem seriously
>> Anonymous
>>190360
>>190366

I weight 130lbs have the legs of an 11 yr old, LOL, and when I say I'd like to squat 200, I mean do it like 30 times. :)
>> Anonymous
Ok i checked the site i ordered it from, its rated to 500lbs.

/thread
>> Anonymous
>>190384
thats still light for serious squating.
Why settle for mediocrtiy?
The main problem I have with the setup is the rack, cages are so superior.
>> Anonymous
>>190379
30 times? This sounds terrible... Lifting below 50% of your one rep max does not do enough muscular damage to achieve anything but a cardiovascular workout. That means that if you can lift something more than 20 times, it will never improve your muscle size or stamina.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muscular_hypertrophy
>> Anonymous
When you hit the limit just use 2 bars.
>> Anonymous
>Why settle for mediocrtiy?

because properly rated 1500lbs olympic bars are like £120, thats more than i want to spend on a length of metal. Maybe once i suparse that bar ill join a gym to do the rest of my leg work or something.

(also, how the hell do you spell suparse?)
>> Anonymous
>>190394
>>Maybe once i suparse that bar

What the fuck are you even trying to say? Learn to write English, then come back.

So stronglifts 5x5 is shit I guess, since you can do about 25 reps. As for mediocrity... for some of us mortals, normal is a goal to work for.

>>190397
Set your goals higher, there is no point in working to be "average" also sets and reps don't work that way (I hope you are trolling).
>> Anonymous
>>190398

Yeah things are different in the UK, we get ripped off hardcore when it comes to weights and bars and things.

Second hand bars are a good idea though, thanks for that, i think ill look into it.
>> Anonymous

>in the UK, we get ripped off hardcore

>> Anonymous
>>190413
so true, but then again almost everything is a rip off in UK
>> Anonymous
>>190408

Not trolling, I'm just not communicating properly that I do not intend to do 30 reps in one set... I mean 30 reps over 4 or 5 sets.
>> Anonymous
>>190397
Incorrect. You are doing five sets of FIVE reps. There's a major difference here. When you break at the end of a set, you are giving time for your muscles to recuperate and oxygenate themselves again. A set of five reps is actually in a very nice zone, sitting around 80% of your one rep max, and it will do maximum myofibrillar hypertrophy which will give you bulk and power.
>> Anonymous
I don't recommend getting an Olympic bar with that rack. It is obviously not strong enough to support the weight of Olympic weights.

Get an Olympic rack before an Olympic bar.
>> Anonymous
>>190418
This is perfectly plausible, but misleading due to the wording ;)
>> Anonymous
>>190421
See my post above, as I failed to specify many sets for 30 reps, not all at once.

>> Anonymous
>>190434
Oh, don't listen to him. What's the rack rated for? Unless you're going to be squatting more than its recommended load (which I highly doubt is under 300 lbs by the looks of it), there shouldn't be any issues.
>> Anonymous
     File :-(, x)
Your half rack looks ok, It had better have some low bars though in case you have to bail the weight. You need to get an olympic bar, those cheap bars wont be able to hold more then 200 pounds. And your bench is terrible. I can't believe companies still make benches that shitty. You never want a bench where the rack pillars are that close to the bench. Wise rack pillars like in the picture
>> Anonymous
Hi, I'm the guy who suggested that you purchase an Olympic bar. I'm an 87kg registered "Olympic" weightlifter (I only compete by state). A barbell is supposed to be far more than a "long piece of steel" as you have so ignorantly insisted on a number of occasions, if you plan on doing any serious lifting. You have clearly demonstrated that you know fuck all about strength training, so I really doubt you will ever be lifting more than what that rack/bar can support. Understand that you are posting on a forum of overweight anime fans who probably do not lift at all, so take their advice for granted. Olympic bars are far different from standard bars in that the ends rotate, eliminating the gyroscopic effect placed on your body and therefore the stress on your joints. This is essential if you want to do exercises such as the clean or the snatch. Even cheap "Olympic" bars are far from the real deal if you are interested in serious weight training. A true blue Olympic bar will run 500-1000+ British pounds.

As I suggested earlier, www.dynamic-eleiko.com has top equipment available for purchase.
>> Anonymous
>>190458
if he's squatting he can just let go of the bar and hop forewards. if hes lifting on the grassor somewhere her can drop the bar
>> Anonymous
Who cares whether I can squat 200 or 500? I mean, what difference does it make healthwise?
>> Anonymous
>>190487
>I'm a fat anime nerd in real life, but on the internets, I can be a competing weightlifter! I better make this known by stupidly claiming that a beginner needs top level equipment from the start.

I don't know what's worse. The fat anime kids who come on here asking how to get fit, or the fat anime kids who come on here pretending they already are.
>> Anonymous
>>190384
thats fine. nobody on /fit/ can squat 500lbs, people are just being faggots
>> Anonymous
>>190511
The latter, easily. I have nothing against people who want to improve themselves, but people who give shit advice because they like feeling smart or something need to get right the fuck off this board.
>> Anonymous
>>190521
Yeah, but generally "improve themselves" means they come on here acting like there's some fat loss secret beyond eat less, move more, add muscle.
>> Anonymous
>>190517
i cant, but my leg press max is 675.

There's a guy in the gym that I go to that squats exactly like that. He puts a ton of weight, bends a little on the knees then arches his back forward. Should I tell him he is doing it wrong even though Im pretty green when it's about weightlifting?
>> Anonymous
>>190593
He might be doing good mornings.... does he arch his back or bend mostly in the hip joint?
>> Anonymous
>>190599
Just saw a proper Good Morning on youtube. His intention is to do a squat but he arches his back like a 'C' with almost no Hip bending.

OP (me) left this thread long ago.

yes i know my bench is shit, it was cheap. Those bars on the rack are movable. The rack is rated at some rediculous weight and is damn solid, i know becase i assembled it myself with different nuts+bolts then the ones supplied and i drilled extra holes.

Im not sure whats going on exactly in this thread, it seems to have turned to shit, lets get it back ont rack.

Has anyone heard of these >Manta ray things? They sit on your shoulders and stop squatz being so painfull on the traps/neck, has anyone used one? Are they good/shit/waste of money/for pussies etc?

How can you judge the quality of the demonstration you saw if you did not even know what the good morning was a few moments ago?
>> Anonymous
I for one say screw all bar pads and the like. It helps develop and strengthen your traps and neck to have the bar sit there
>> Anonymous
>>190682
You do not put anything between you and a bar, says Rippetoe.
>> Anonymous
>>190695
I can see the back arching instead of the hips bending. Isn't that enough?
>> Anonymous
Mark Rippetoe sucks. It's no surprise everyone loves his information though, on the internet. Easily torrented.
>> Anonymous
I put a hand towel on mine, its not really a cushion, but it protects the skin from getting chafed.
>> Anonymous
dont use the manta ray, its a different groove than just the bar. wrap a pussy pad around it if it hurts, or change the placement, set the bar on your rear delts
>> Anonymous
Or just do fucking front squats.
No pain on your back.
