/fit/ I'm fat as hell and I want help.

I know you probably get tons of these topics, but seriously, I'm sick of being fat and I don't know who else to go to. I can't afford to join a gym, much less see a nutritionist.

I'm 5'4". I weigh 250 lbs. I've gained almost the whole 50 in the last year I've lived with my boyfriend. He refuses to eat vegetables unless they're fried or they're mashed potatoes, which hardly counts. I try to eat healthy when I'm not around him, but this really isn't too often.

I cut soda, but I'm still drinking coffee, with sugar and cream, very sweet and very creamy. I have trouble waking up without it and I have trouble drinking it without the sugar. Other than that I drink water except on rare occasions. I'll drink about one soda a week these days and I have a hard time finishing them.

I also bought a ton of fruit lately, and his mom got us a bunch of pecans for free. I've been eating bananas, apples, grapes, pears, and oranges almost constantly. I've started having apples and pecans with yogurt for breakfast, grapes with cottage cheese for lunch, eating whatever my boyfriend has for dinner with him, which is usually pretty unhealthy (salisbury steaks with mashed potatoes. he'll eat stuffing too, but that's just too much for me in one meal) and a few hours later for a nighttime snack (or dessert. I always crave sweets at night) I'll have banana mashed up with pecans and milk on top.

We recently got a manual treadmill, which is great, because the biggest reasons for me NEVER exercising is that I'm too ashamed to go outside and walk/jog and it's cold as hell usually. I've been trying to walk on it twice a day for 15-30 minutes at a time.

What else should I do to lose weight? I feel like I'm on the right track, obviously eating healthier than I was. We haven't been out to eat at a breakfast buffet in weeks, and I'm trying to only eat meat once a day and substitute nuts for the missing protein. I'm alright with eating vegetables, but I don't like to reheat them too well, and I'll never eat them all in one meal since I'm eating them by myself.

Eat better. Stuffing your face with fruit isn't healthy. Fruit is good for you but in moderation. It has a large amount of sugar. Don't fool your self that you're eating healthy.

1.You'll be stronger and in better shape.
2. It will help fill out the extra skin that you'll have.

There are fruits with more/less sugar too. A banana hasn't the same sugar than an apple. The same for vegetables, it's better eat cucumbers than potatoes for example.

If he eats like you say, then he's probably a fat fuck. So unless you guys start a diet/exercise program together (and this would actually be helpful for positive encouragement) then get rid of him. It might hurt now, but once you are in shape, you'll be able to do better.

Lift light weights to start, just to get your arms moving. Just walk for now, no need to run or jog yet because just simple walking will make a difference for you. And do it outside.

Also, educate yourself on how to eat properly because you really aren't going to see any progress eating like you do.

6 months is all it takes to lose a big amount of weight, like 50-70 pounds of fat, if you dedicate yourself. Educate yourself, motivate yourself. Don't ask /fit/... 99% of the time they're wrong or trolls. Only a few anon are actually helpful.

But if you're a lazy fucker and won't read, to lose weight, make sure you do some form of cardio everyday to burn fat/calories (in the morning after you wake up is best, fasted cardio doesn't have to make you burn through glycogens, goes straight to fat), and do a lifting program to burn more fat/calories (indirectly, fat burning occurs after the workout throughout the day)... also, eat 5-6 small meals a day, eat lean protein with each meal, drink tonnes of water and cut your caloric intake by 500-1000 a day.

As many people before me have said, you have to eat less and eat healthier (there are plenty of sites with food recommendations) and exercise.

I'm not talking about a fifteen minute slow walk. You need to feel your body asking to stop and you need to be sweating. Unless you feel exhausted, you're doing it wrong.

Don't lie to yourself about exercise and your diet because if you don't do it right, you will not lose weight.

Also, don't give a shit about what people down at the gym think. If I see a fat person working out, I think "omg they're fat" but then I'm impressed that they're making an effort.

Don't cut the fruit. Yes, it has sugar in it, but it actually has bugger all energy. Ever watched apes? They constantly eat fruit. They need to, because they eat fuck all else and they need a shitload of it to get a proper supply of energy. Lots of fruit and good carbs like oats and seeds (pumpkin and flax are my favourite) will set you right.

Regulating when you eat is important. Never feel like you should eat at a certain time, like lunch or dinner, just eat when you're hungry (apart from when you wake up, eat then regardless). Stop eating when you feel full; never clear your plate if you don't want to. Waste a bit of food and learn not to make so much in the future. Eat small meals in large numbers, rather than three a day.

The morning coffee is likely really hurting you. You feel like you need the coffee because you drink the coffee; it's a vicious circle of caffeine addiction. I used to be like that, until I just stopped. I felt shit for a week, then felt good in the morning without any stimulants.

Sleep well. Eight hours per night is good.

Comparing human lifestyle vs. ape lifestyle isn't exactly accurate. Like people said earlier, eat lots of veggies but don't cut the fruit out. Try not to eat the sweeter fruits like bananas and such. If you ever feel like eating a snack or anything that's when you reach for fruit.

Eat small meals more often. Don't eat a large helping and regardless of what your boyfriend eats, the only way you'll ever lose weight is to NOT EAT WHAT HE EATS.

As for exercise, walk on the treadmill but don't just stroll like you're looking at the trees or anything; you need to be sweating and tired when you're done. If you have the treadmill positioned so you can look at the TV, don't turn it on. If you're able to watch TV while you exercise it generally means you're not exercising hard enough.

Like most people said, NO ONE judges you outside. Everyone there has a goal to reach, and you'll find out fast it's pretty shitty to walk on the treadmill, it's much, much, much more refreshing to be exercising outside.

Last thing, it's all about willpower. How hard do you want to do this? A lot of people go through this phase where they're utterly horrified by their current appearance and then the next day feel like everything is fine and resort back to their old lifestyle. You have to constantly remind yourself why you're doing this and whether or not you want it enough. It's all about willpower.

All the effort put into eating fruit to lose weight isn't going to matter much if you're still eating fatty crap for dinner. Make a healthy dinner yourself. If you can't stomach that, eat a smaller portion of the stuff your boyfriend makes.

I'd suggest having more protein for breakfast, like eggs instead.

It's calories you should watch out for, it's more important than watching -what- you eat when trying to lose weight. Boyfriend's dinners is detrimental in that department.

15 minutes isn't going to do anything. You also have to be tired. You have to exercise until you sweat and are really tired, most likely sore since you're not used to exercise. You'll feel tired as shit but you'll also feel really, really damn good after a nice workout.

That's something 15 minutes isn't going to do for you, unless you're doing HIIT and stuff which I doubt you will.
