>it's cheap

that shit wasn't cheap for me...even generic brand...i wound up not taking it BECAUSE of the red tape bullshit. plus monthly blood tests. play it safe and go with an alternative.

I went from pulsating clob of puss to svelt young lad in a matter of 6 months at the cost of my lips falling off due to chappedness.

Worth it.

The med itself was $5 a month for me. I only had to pay once or twice for the blood tests, IDK what was up with that.

similar experience here.

lots of dry skin (get some LOLtion), chapped lips (get some BOMB), generally drink more water than you normally do.

after one month, no acne whatsoever.

I'm on it right now. It's great. I'm clear. But people in this thread didn't really know how to take care of themselves while they were on it. Here's some advice if you take it:

Lips: People's lips turn really really sandpapery dry. What I did was put stuff called "aquaphor" on my lips right after a shower and left it on overnight. It has to be right after a shower to trap the moisture. Throughout the whole course, my lips felt and looked relatively normal

Absorption: Some people have their acne come back after their treatment. I take OMEGA-3 fish oil tablet along with a meal with my accutane to maximize the absorption because it absorbs best with fatty acids. OMEGA 3 also helps relieve achy joints and muscles if accutane gave them to you

Serious reply here (multiple parts)

I had bad acne on my face, and quite a bit on my back (more than your average person). I had taken many different types of pills and used many different creams throughout 9th and 10th grade. In January of 11th grade (so, January 2007 here) I started taking Accutane.

I was on a 30mg 2xdaily for the first three months.

Shit cleared up fast and my skin consistently got clearer and clearer, shrinking my pores. My skin looked better than if I had magically removed all my acne but left the skin the same. Bad analogy but what I mean is IT WORKED YAY.

My lips did not get dry that badly. I applied simply regular normal person chapstick every morning and even night, after brushing my teeth after a shower and before bed. It was Winter when I started too, so I normally need chapstick in the winter. It was NOT that bad at all.

Dry skin, the most I noticed was a bit around my mouth, but it was not a visible type. I did get a bit of red irritation on my lower arms, which annoyed me at first, but a normal cheap-o lotion helped. This was probably caused by my tending to wear short sleeves in the windy winter that year(Texasfag here).

After the first 3 months they upgraded me to 40mg 2xdaily, which was all WTF WHY? Basically the doctor wanted to get tons and tons of it in me during the 6 month period, just because that makes it almost guaranteed not to come back after I am done with it.

I ended in June, and all has been OMG AWESOME since then. Seriously, no anything on my face or back, everything cleared up more than you could possibly believe. They gave me some topical version to apply 3x weekly, but I have not applied it after the first few weeks. It's been months now and still nothing.

I occasionally get a bump (never 2 at the same time) on my face, but it basically shown up in the morning, and disappears by 5 or 6pm that night, nothing serious. It appears to be what would become acne, but stands no chance since my pores have been shrunk down by the mediation.

tl;dr FUCK YEAH ACCUTANE. DO THIS SERIOUSLY. ONE OF THE BEST DECISIONS OF MY LIFE.

Oh, some more details actually:

Me: White, Male, Scandanavian/Italian heritage, so my skin is not naturally dry. It's not too oily either, but at a nice level. It was not overly affected by accutane.

As far as sensitivity to light: This did occur, and by that I mean my skin would tan/burn faster. The tanning faster part was actually good IMO, and burning faster sucked. But ordinary sunblock helped, and was only needed if I was going to be outside for like 2+ hours in direct sun. I normally burn easily though. Although, these days I can go outside for 3-5 hours and never get a burn, so I guess it was just accutane making me so susceptible. But srsly, that is not a big issue.
