/fit, I have love handles. They are nasty and need to leave. What are some good exercises for this? As far as equipment goes, I have some light weights (like, 5-10lbs), and an excersise ball.

things that will help, in decreasing order of importance:

change your diet, jog, and do this 3 times a day every day:
50 crunches (i like to throw in the side-to-side ones at the end, so that i work my obliques a little bit)
30 pushups
10 back hyperextensions (optional)

Change my diet how? What should I avoid?

The misconception remains that fat "turns" into muscle. You can do ab exercises to tighten your midsection, but the stores of fat will go away only if you eat less than you burn.

So, surprise, exercise plus diet. Remember that belly fat is the last fat to go, that is, you cannot lose fat in a "spot" without losing it all over.

My personal belief is that it doesn't really matter what you eat, it's how much. Keep a food log for a week. Find your average daily caloric intake. Cut some percent of this total and go forward.

avoid these:
high glycemic carbs (sugar, white bread, fruit juice)
saturated fat
trans fatty acids

eat these:
protein
unsaturated fats
low-glycemic carbs (whole wheat, starch)
leafy green veggies
all kinds of fruit
fiber

and remember: balance is everything! each meal you should have low glycemic carbs, fruit/vegetables, protein, good fats, and a big motherfucking glass of water. also, eating a lot of small meals rather than 3 big ones keeps your metabolism up.

what are enriched or bleached grains? can you give me an example? is this something that's usually listed on the nutrition portion of a food container?

it'll say "enriched wheat flour" or "enriched bleached wheat flour" in the ingredients. basically, anything that isn't listed as "whole grain" or "whole wheat" is probably enriched or bleached.
