I am a tall, skinny guy with a metabolism like you wouldn't believe. I can eat whatever I want as much as I want, and rarely move, and I don't gain weight. Now, however, I have become more conscious of my health and want to get in shape. I am going to start running with a couple of my friends every day starting tomorrow, but I would also really like to fill out and get some muscle.

Pic semi-related. I am not nearly as skinny as this guy, but I am close.

both are good guides, apparently, I have no experience with Starting Strength but see good things around here

And I forgot to add why I made this post. What would you suggest for someone like me, who has never really exercised before, and would like to get some amount of muscle?

Thank you. Anything else?

Oh, running isn't a good idea for skinny guys. At the start you'll gain some leg muscle sure, but eventually it'll start removing muscle too. It could be good for you to start getting fit again though

Well, I am skinny everywhere but my stomach. I have a pudgy stomach, and my legs are goo. My legs have been described as feeling "exactly like boobs."

I'm skinny and its important that you run even if you are skinny. Just you shouldn't do it as often. It is important to do cardio though for healthy lungs, heart, and circulatory system. I run probably twice a week, thats all I need, because I don't need to burn calories.

yeah, true enough, just wasn't the best idea for him to be doing it everyday with his friends

Running is fine if you're skinny, as long as you offset it with enough food during the day. Nobody is going to lose weight running if they're eating 3000+ calories a day, while they'll still get muscular and cardiovascular benefits from it.

eat moar, alot moar, and lift weights

So, all I have really heard is "don't run that much", nothing really about what TO do, except read. Exercise every day, every other day, lift stuff, push stuff, pull stuff, do push ups, go crazy for a month, take it easy and go slow, what am I doing? I realize that you guys are not my personal trainer, but I would love advice.

I appreciate it!

Look at the rapidshare, I know it's a lot of reading but once you figure out a routine (it's very easy to make one) and a diet (again, very easy with that guide) you'll be well on your way.

The thing lists out foods you should shop for, what fast foods you can eat in a pinch and etc.

As soon as my rapidshare limit is gone (i.e. tomorrow) I will read it, I was just wondering what else there was to know.

Whew, /fit/ is as far from /b/ as the east is from the west.

Just know you should ease yourself into it. It's easy to make an ambitious plan from the advice you'll read, DO SO, but do not start with it on the first day. Give yourself a week to ease into the plan by beginning with partial intensity to what you have planned, and increasing over a week.

if you wanna gain some muscle, do more weight lifting than running.

runnins gonna get you in better shape but you'll still be skinny like before. (if not even more skinny)

Genetic freaks like you have to eat lots lots moar food to gain muslce than the average human.

Find out, using a calorite calculator, how much you have to eat to maintain your weight, add 700-1000kcal to that, and that's how much you want to be eating if you want to gain muscle. Make sure to eat a lot of protein.
