hello /fit/ =]

i just came from outside running . i decided i wanted to be healthy and fit . my legs are killing me and i can barely go up and down stairs but it feels amazing =D

i decided that i want to be more healthy in my lifestyle so i decided to start running . i ran for about an hour with a few minute breaks with each lap i did around my block . i realized everytime about halfway to 3/4 of the way around my block , my lower starts to hurt , kinda like its being pulled n the muscles are being worked .

is this normal for first time joggers/runners ?

also pic related , shows where it hurts , it hurts a little more on my right side tho .

If you're overweight or you just haven't run in a long time, your back will probably hurt for a few weeks while running until you get used to it. Stretch more before working out, try some back exercises, and if you can lift weights. Squats with low weight but lots of reps do wonders for the back as long as you're careful and do them properly.

if you only just started running you'll probably find this goes away. ifs cos your not used to useing those muscles. they get stronger and you'll be anble to run the whole way around the block without it hurting. also try doing some crunches to tighten your abs. this will support your body making for less work of the back and more on your strengthend abdominal muslces

if persists, chiropractic doc or massage or something.

I had a little aching in the lumbar region when I started running too about a year ago. I chalk it up to underused back muscles at the time. Echoing and adding to previous poster's suggestions; Squats and core training seemed to work for me too.

If it worsens or doesn't go away then follow the advice of>>47614
