recumbent and stationary bikes don't burn as many calories by hour as other activities. Jumping rope will kick your ass, and burns way more calories than biking. Go to bodybuilding.com and search for jump roping programs and pick one you like / can handle. Swimming also burns way more calories, if you can find a nice indoor pool. I wouldn't worry if your fat going there, as the people that you'd encounter there are looking to workout / swim laps and not oggle poolside.
