Yes and yes.
Supplements are meant to supplement. They're not the be-all-end-all. Honestly, I've never used any supplements whatsoever and I'm fucking huge.
Lean meats like fish and poultry are good protein. Beef, pork and eggs are all good protein too, but they're a little more fatty. Nuts are also a really good source of protein and good (unsaturated) fats. It's harder to get as much protein as you need to optimize your gains without taking some in the form of supplements, but it's certainly possible, and it really doesn't make that much of a difference if you don't get quite as much as your recommended daily intake of protein says you should.
