How much do you guys bench press?

I'm only at like 160lbs, nothing huge yet :/
>> Anonymous
I weigh 235 and currently can max out 360lbs last I tried. Lately I've been doing this pyramid:
135x10
225x10
275x10
295x6
305x6
315x4
225x6

or are we?
>> Anonymous
I can bench 225 bout two times.
>> Anonymous
I don't really go above 225 myself primarily because I don't have a spotter. I'm about 170lbs. I don't max out or anything like that since I've been doing flat, incline, and decline all on the same day.
>> Anonymous
>>417531
that pyramid is way too big. you are wasting time and energy getting up to 315. try this shit:
135x10
275x10
315x6
hell yeah
then move on to the next exercise.
>> Anonymous
>>417580
Yeah, that many sets of lower weights when you can do 315 is not pointless, but not that much more beneficial.
>> Anonymous
380x5
>> Anonymous
I'm pushing hard for 250 but so far my official max is 235
>> Anonymous
I wonder how many people give their weight for real bench presses (bar touches the chest) as opposed to this pussy version. I saw an old fuck walk into YMCA and rack up 225 pounds, and I was like noo waay. Then he did this dumb shit where he didn't even go below his elbows unlocking.
>> TheCodester
155lbs, currently benching 315 for 2-rep max
>> Anonymous
60 lbs.

I know, what the fuck, but that's 20 more pounds than I could do last month.
>> gay
5x5 @ 110lb dumbells :(
>> Anonymous
>>417611
It's not a problem man. 20 pounds is good progress for a month.

Don't even worry about it, if you push yourself and eat at least half right in a year you'll get 225 up at the very least. I've seen it happen.
>> Anonymous
I go up to 245x5. It feels good to do that much, but actually doesn't feel good so much to my muscles, so I usually stay lower and do like 225x8 and such.

>>417609
I agree completely. I'm sure we all have stories of the stupid shit we see on a daily basis. Mine is a regular who loads the bar with 225 then has a range of motion about 6" and never comes closer than 12" to his chest.
>> Anonymous
>>417611
>>417615
Indeed. Progress and patience and pushing your body to your limit (not someone elses limit) is the key
>> Anonymous
I have been lifting for about 2 months now.

I can do 4 reps (4th rep is sometimes a half rep) of 111 lb flat bench press.

My max was 245 2 years ago when I was about 170. After a rotator cuff injury and losing 15 pounds, I won't do BB bench. I'm up to 70lb DBs right now.

i weigh 175 and i'm on 145 for 5x5

i dropped the 145lbs on my fucking upper lip today and got a big bump because i lost my balance holding the bar and lowered it to the wrong place (my upper lip as opposed to above my neck where the bar will be stopped by safety pins before crushing my windpipe)

also does /fit/ have any douchebags at their gym who check out dip belts and then keep them for a goddamn hour and a half locked in their locker or some shit instead of using the belt and then returning it

fuck i'm going to have to buy a dip belt because some faggot keeps doing this shit at my university WITH BOTH DIP BELTS RAAAAAGE

it's weird, back in senior year of high school i took weight training. my bench max halfway through the year never went above 165. but what was weird was i could do the most pushups and pull ups/ chin ups out of my class of thirty guys. most of my class mates were in foot ball or wrestling but they couldn't even do a third as many push ups, pull ups, and chin ups as me.

my upper body is still skinny as fuck, the bench is my worst lift, it should be much higher according to my weight
>> CWheezy !!bJFrM5LONOF

That isn't weird at all, that makes complete sense.

While there is a small carryover, push-ups do not = high chest strength, they just mean you're good at pushups

18yo, 5'7", been in the gym for 3 months. gained 8lbs so far from 140 to 148.
bench pressing 135lbs, it's pretty good considering when I started I could barely bench press the pole itself without any weights.

On average, between 150 and 165. The most ive ever attempted was 175 and got it up without help. :>
>> Anonymous
My max has been 264lbs for 3 reps. But right now I'm back at 198 for reps because I stopped benching last 3 months.

BW = ~220lbs
>> Anonymous
I got a better question:

Why bench?

No wait, even better:

How much do you military press?
>> Anonymous
I can max at about 100 lbs
anything else and my shoulders get swollen

Military press 5x75kg w/ 80kg bodyweight, no belt, no shoes, no straps, no pussyhopping to start the movement. Like it's supposed to be done.

205 to Fail

Don't usually finish the 195 in one set, and only get 2-3 at 205, but i started this summer at 135, so I figure it's a good improvement. Any of you /fit/fags know if this's a problem: Splitting a set up, (let's say 10 reps to sets of 6 and 4), to be able to do more weight?
>> Anonymous
>>418997
military press ain't bench press bitch

i don't think you know the name of what you're doing

military press is similar to an overhead press but where your heels are touching each other and your feet make a V shape
