hey /fit/ whats your opinion on push ups? I've been doing at least 35 - 100 mostly every day for 4 months already and don't see any results
>> Anonymous
push ups are alright for a start, but u gotta move up to free weights sometime
>> JESUS !vBOFA0jTOg
Pushups are for faggots, just do some bench.
>> Anonymous
That's not the kind of thing that's going to make you more fit, your body gets used to it and it's like you're not doing anything at all. You have to switch it up, do full body workouts, weights and cardio, constantly push yourself, and eat right.
>> Anonymous
u have to fucking eat to, also yes free weights will give u faster results.
>> Anonymous
Make sure your feet are above your head (on a bench or whatever) when you lie on your chest on the floor, then do 8 push-ups, at the eigth push-up, do a 4 second pause when you're about halfway down, repeat.
>> Anonymous
If you want to stay with a body weight workout, you should advance from push ups if you can already do >60 of them.

If you can do 100 push ups, you basically limit out on the benefit and doing more is just going to be bad on your wrists.

Suggestions on stuff to try out,

Diamond push ups.
Guillotine push ups.
Tricep push ups.
Decline push ups.
Weighed push ups (put random shit in a back pack and do them then.)
One-legged push ups.
Finger push ups.

If you're feeling quite advanced, start doing one handed push ups.
If you're feeling mother fucking advanced, start learning how to do planche push ups.

Do these, OP.
>> Anonymous
there's a reason why repetitions of 5-15 is the recommended amount of muscle growth
>> Mr. Marketeer !H5nbtYBA4A
Lol, OP, if you can do 100, then you really don't need to be doing pushups.

Hurr.

Try this:
Put yourself in a pushup position, but use the flat of your arms to hold you up.
Lower yourself into a line, and hold it as long as you can.

Also, time for resistance training.

>> Anonymous
>>371729
Seconded. I can't even find most of those exercises.
>> Anonymous
>>371732

Most?

He only said a single exercise, and I think that he was trying to describe a planche.
>> Anonymous

Me here. Is the pic what you're talking about?

Your hands go parallel with the torso. Instead of being perpendicular to it like in the chest push up.

(Think of your elbows touching your sides while doing them.)

So if I do, lets say, 10 reps of every pushup style I'll be cool?
>> Anonymous
>>371747
If you can do 5 planche push ups, your god.
If we're talking about the other styles, think more like 30-50 reps per set.
>> sager~u !EXtVBN/Sr6
How the fuck people do this shit? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rghpvUUy7bA

Samefag, personally for my conditioning day workout, I do:

50x Tris, followed by
50x Diamonds, then
50x Declines, with my feet 1 meter above the ground.

35-100 is a very WIDE range.
>> Anonymous
Ok I can only do around 25+ regular pushups, but I can do equally many or more diamond pushups. Is this all in my mind or can one be stronger on the latter?
>> Anonymous
>>371805

maybe you have really strong triceps

You all need to learn about adaptation and conditioning; If you really think doing the same shit at the same weight is going to make your body change then you're wrong.

Periodisation.
>> train Anonymous
Lots of pushups = endurance (little visible results)

Doing HARD exercises = strength and muscle (visible!)

Whatever the exercise, aim to make it so hard that you can do 5-12 repetitions max. Then do 3-5 sets (resting 1-3 minutes between sets).
>> Anonymous
Try divebomber/hindu pushups
>> Anonymous
>>373515

Add-on: and 35-100 pushups doesn't mean shit if you spread them across the entire day. Go past your comfort zone, and keep going.

>>371681
oh please, that only gives 10% of your body weight.
