Hello /fit/
I need some help with weight loss. I weigh 124lb. and am 5'3. Until September I weighed 112 pound and was well toned, but with the stress of school, work and the additional help of the birth control I'm on I've been gaining weight. I've only ever lost weight/exercised by jogging and biking but it's winter and I'm going to start going to the gym, which I've never done.

Any links to websites with routines, tips or personal experiences?

Just start doing running via treadmill, also some crunches, chin ups and all the other stuff wouldn't hurt. Don't do it so much that you start gaining muscle but enough to get your metabolic rate up.

Don't be a jackass. The last thing the world needs is more women who think they need to avoid gaining muscle. Also, crunches?

OP, eat enough and run/bike your ass off. On a treadmill or stationary bike if you want to be a wimp like that.

I wouldn't mind a little stomach muscle...and it's not me being a wimp so much as it's -20 degrees celsius and I have a compromised immune system.

Thanks for the compliment.

DO gain muscle. That means taking your little ass over to the weight room and away from the elliptical machines once in awhile.

What kind of weights/strength training do you think would be a good idea?

"I can't exercise outside, I have a compromised immune system!"

What the hell kind of excuse is that?

It's more the, it's freezing and there's snow that get's in the way.

Crunches are a pretty lousy way to spend your time though. Compound lifts would be a better avenue to pursue.

So first its medical excuse bullshit, and now "its just cold wah!" bullshit.

What do the two excuses have in common? A whole lot of bullshit.

Run or don't. Go to the gym or don't. But know that it isn't the weather or your immune system's fault for you choosing not to do either one.

If you choose the gym, just ask a worker how to use the equipment. Attend any free classes they offer about strength training. There is only so much the internet has to offer.

I'd personally recommend doing the type of exercise that spot reduces your need to post multiple pictures of yourself on /fit/ for attention.

fastest way to lose weight: go outside in the snow in minimal clothing, you will burn calories like a motherfucker never did. if you can keep the frostbite under control.

What's that you say?

Is there ANY truth to this?
>> Anonymous

Well duh. Think about it. A calorie is a measurement of HEAT energy. When you go out in the freezing cold your body needs to maintain homeostasis. And that means generating heat.

Doesn't mean it's not a retarded idea though.
