so which is more superior in cardio /fit/ness?

Elliptical

Treadmill

or bikes?
>> Anonymous
Elliptical due to its more well rounded workout (hits both upper and lower body). For that same reason, rowing and swimming are far and away better than even elliptical.
>> Anonymous
I prefer to do my cardio outside. When it's too cold or whatever, I run on a treadmill.

I hope this is true.

Bike vs. treadmill?
>> Anonymous
>>28905
I like treadmill better. My legs are longcat long, so I beat the fuck out of my knees on most exercise bikes.

Rowers are also the jam.
>> Anonymous
any specific reason I go faster on an ellip than a treadmill?
>> Anon_Nymous !!1eBwI1IGkKw
>>28905
just from personal experience, i find the treadmill more tiresome.
although i usually work up a good sweat from the bikes w/o becoming dog-tired like running.

i use the bike for a good cool-down. or if i start to tighten up while working out, i'll take a "break" the bike.

ranked from best to worst
1. ellicptical
2. bike
3. treadmill

Elliptical is more well rounded and nonimpact
bike is nonimpact
treadmill is for faggots
>> Anonymous
>>28933
So..does it not give you as good of a workout?
>> Anonymous
i do kettlebell swings for cardio

also Elliptical
>> Anonymous
>>28929
No impact lets you go faster. Plus, you arms can exert direct force into your effort.

>>28941
You fail absolutely.

In terms of burning fat:
Treadmill
Elliptical
Bike

In terms of Impact
Elliptical
Bike (pretty much equal)
Treadmill.

The bike is pretty much fail, unless you're really overweight or training for a bike race or have bad joints. I recommend everyone use the elliptical, for no impact and fairly high intensity.
>> Juggy !tr.t4dJfuU
You can go faster on the elliptical because your body expends less energy per stride than a treadmill since it doesn't have to absorb the full impact of your body weight hitting the running surface.

Running.

so in other words, treadmill = faster results?

fuck. i use the elliptical and bike.
>> Anonymous
I only like the treadmill because it's easy to do a workout-by-workout comparison of your performance. I can set it to 7.4mph and then run for 26 mins, tomorrow 26.5 mins, the next day 27 mins...
>> Juddy
>>28956
Juggy? are you kidding me? are you trying to get yourself fucked up? i think itd be best if you changed your name Juggy, bad things have happened to people who imitate the great Juddy. not a threat, just sayin...
>> Anonymous
>>28969
Not necessarily. I hate treadmills (I fucking hate running, honestly, and will only run for sports or if someone is chasing me). So I dont like to use them. I get fine results just from the elliptical.

30 minutes treadmill = more calories burned than 30 minutes on elliptical. BUT, will you actually do the treadmill for 30 minutes or more, 5 times a week? I won't.

I lift weights or do a body workout routine (pullups, pushups, crunches, etc) and then do the elliptical for 28 minutes.
>> Juggy !tr.t4dJfuU
>>28994
Bad logic. If you're just running by distance with no incline or resistance, then yes, you'll burn more calories on the treadmill than on the elliptical. However, it's easier to run faster on the elliptical for reasons we've already stated, so just run faster in the same amount of time. You can burn the same amount of calories in the same amount of time, with the added advantage that you don't have to worry about messing up your legs.

I wish I could buy an elliptical machine. I'm a god damn fattie, and my legs hurt so much after just a little running. I end having to do the shittiest work out ever on my treadmill:

.0-.1 - 3 mph
.1-.3 - 6 mph
.4-.5 - 3 mph
.5-.6 - 5 mph
.6-.7 - 3.5 mph
.7-.8 - 5 mph
.8-.9 - 3.5 mph
.9-1. - 5 mph
1.-1.1 - 3 mph
1.1-2.2 - 3.5 mph
2.2-3. - 3 mph

oh well, I guess. Perhaps I can run faster and better when I lose more weight.

from 0-25, how much would be fairly high?

I do between 14-16
>> Anon_Nymous !!1eBwI1IGkKw
>>28944
honestly, i have no idea which gives a better work out.

if you were partial to either, i'm sure there's a routine that would make either outshine the other.

i just find the bike to be easier on my body.

I prefer bike riding on a trail to elliptical and treadmill.

No

No

No

Running (or swimming as mentioned) is much more natural and healthy and ultimately useful outside of exercising. Treadmills completely change the muscles involved.

If you don't care about useful muscle then do whatever you enjoy.

Woooooooo... pshhhhhhhhh...

Does elliptical fuck anyone else up? Its like my legs are too long or something, I don't get a full range of motion. I usually just end up running on a treadmill.
>> Anonymous
Exactly. If you want to join the ministry of silly walks, elliptical is for you.

Yep Ergs fucking rock, cause your using all of your major muscle groups when you use it.

well, not many places have ergs and just have the basics

eliptical and treadmill (nice) > recumbant bike (boring) > normal bike (my penis goes numb on it and it's boring)

ERGfag here. Most places have at least one by now, which blows because if someone's on it you have no choice other than to walk on the treadmill or wait. Just stay away from the Model C. It will bruise your ass and rip your arms off, I swear it.

The newer ones (E and above I think) have a computer that you can buy an ID card for, and monitor your workouts. There's a way to hook it up to your laptop and there's software for it, but I never really bothered. Cheers.
>> Anonymous
there was an article in mens health or mens fitness about a rowing machine being way more superior to all 3 of these, let me try to find it and ill post it up.
>> Anonymous
i like elliptical cause i can switch it into reverse and give my legs a pretty good workout
>> Anonymous
Another ERGfag. I actually own a Concept II rower -- awesome piece of equipment. It really builds up your shoulders, back, biceps, and quads.

For anyone that hasn't used one before: make sure you have decent form. Just find a youtube video or something -- it's a really simple motion. Your legs should already be extended horizontal when you pull in your arms and then let them back out (in other words, you shouldn't have to go up "over" your bent knees). That's the common mistake I see, not that it's a deal breaker or anything.

My personal schedule is running on my chest/tricep days and erging on my back/bicep/shoulder days. Plus, it just feels more badass with the WHOOSH noises than churning on an elliptical trainer like a 60 year old woman.

Clueless faggot here.
If I want to increase my hear-lung endurance or w/e the shit is it called, should I run everyday?

HEART*

Run 5 or 6 days a week and mix it up. Maybe do a longer, slower run one day and then a fucking intense shorter run the next. Or even a series of sprints. Don't be like "Well I already ran and stopped prematurely an hour ago, so this day is over" -- wait until you catch your wind and then go some more. The idea is to be truly exhausted at the ends of your running days and then allow your body to recover and improve on the off days.

Also, when you breath (during runs or even normally), go WAY in and WAY out. People tend not to exhale all the way and therefore the capacity and circulation isn't maximized. Make a point of controlling your breathing here and there to really squeeze every bit of air.
