So fresh and so clean Anonymous
Hey guys,

So I know how to deadlift, squat (o.k.), and bench. But never have done power cleans.

Safe to learn from a book? Hire a personal trainer? Give up and forcus on trying to suck my own cock?

Learn on your own with progressively heavier weights, starting light as shit. Duh.

Mehdi, Stronglift's author struggled for a few months before suceeding.

Go light weights until the pattern is burnt in your mind. COMPLETE MASTERY. THAT MEANS U SHOULD BE ABLE TO POWER CLEAN WHEN SLEEPING.

One vote for safe via book. And thanks for the heads up. I was going to throw 200 lbs on there, say "NUTTIN BUT PEANUT," and see what the fuck would happen.

Thanks, I've been curious about getting the explosive power down. My squats are SLOW now they are getting heavy

It's best to learn from somebody..but people that actually know how to do them are kinda rare, and I doubt your locacl personal trainer would know...so +1 for learning yourself. Fuck, I learned oly lifts by myself, just start with super light weight, and take videos to analyze your form...

Ya bro I know what you're talking about. Try adding in some plyometrics after your squat day. I've been doing 2x10 of box jumps every Mon and Fri on the Starting Strength program for 2 weeks now, it seems to be working so far. The bar speed is steady, the sticking points don't come as often, only near the end on the last set. I don't have this to base off of anything really, its just something that I noticed on my own. Try it out and see if it'll work for you too

if you are serious, there are places far better than /fit/ to be asking these questions.

/fit/ is for the pitcher fags to argue about 1x5 vs 5x5 and catcher fags to lust over toning.

as this is as always, a touchy subject when dealing with motor learning on a speed-strength/dynamic movement, TRY TRY TRY to get a CERTIFIED strength coach/USAW pratictioner to show you. likely you won't find one. i was very lucky in my case and willing to drive 1hr both directions.

BUT in the end, "cleans" done wrong are still better than cleans never done at all. Its not like you are going to compete, so do'em, and try to do'em right.

also, dont go 'too light' as the motor pattern for learning will be different AND it won't 'feel' right. for men (that means you can squat/DL at least 315) i teach with a starting weight of 95. I had an athlete who couldn't learn until he moved up to 155 in weight. adjust as you see fit. (these are in pounds)

I'm not really understanding the last thought. I'm not a man if I can't squat 315?

Currently I squat about 200, so maybe starting weight of 65 pounds would be good

OH, and far better places such as?

I front squat 180, deadlift 300, and bench 150.

Yet somehow I'm able to play with 130 lb on cleans right off the bat. I was bored, yet I was still able to get that shit up and up all the way on my first just-for-fun attempt. Don't underestimate yourself. Freefall thrust momentum does a lot of the work.

yes, 65 should be about right. focus on the 'unload' feeling and NEVER EVER use biceps.

think--> arms as hooks
