I'm gonna try and lose weight, and was wondering if it's worth purchasing a pair of trainers for running? Right now I just use some shitty old pair of trainers which I think is primarily for hiking or something. What brands shall I look out for, which should I avoid, any recommendations for around the £30-40 mark?

Depends on your feet and where you are running, we can not help you with this, there should be qualified personell in your local sports store. Most likely your shitty old trainers are good enough, as long as you feel comfortable in them and they dont wear a ton.

Well... running is going to unleash hell on your joints. Some run fags will come and claim otherwise, but it will.

Are the shoes you are using now causing you pain? If not, just keep using them.

depends on your weight, you may hurt your knees even with the best trainers around. as far as trainers go, if you really like running (more then 2-3 x per week), buy special ones. if you are a student and can't afford several pair, i'd suggest allround trainers so you can use them for other sports too.

get a really good pair of running shoes, not a big stupid pair of nikes they aren't running shoes they are fashion. you don't want to get yourself shin splints or fucked knees

If you're looking for cheap just get some Skechers/New Balance.
As long as they're sport shoes they'll do.

I ran with flat bottomed shoes for a bit and it hurt like shit, so running without trainers = not a good idea.

Hmm...I knew running was bad from joints, but you guys make it sound like it's REALLY bad. In that case, is there any other (free) cardio I can do that isn't quite as bad as running? My plan was to go for a jog every morning, followed by going to the gym later in the evening every 2 days or so.
