so im gonna start jogging an hour or so after work to loose some weight, but I come home pretty late so im quite hungry and I need advice on weither I should eat and wait for like an hour or if I should just take like a banana or two and go out immediately

I'd prefer to eat and wait an hour I think but what should I eat if so to not make me burn what I just ate instead of fat

Don't workout within like 2 hours of eating just to be safe.

You would be MUCH better off doing your running in the morning because of a lot of crap. Most of the time you can wait a while before eating, and you definitely don't have anything on your stomach. I hear things about insulin levels being low or some such too but I don't know about that well enough to try and restate without possibly fucking it up.

Also if you insist on working out after work then just drink water to curb the appetite a bit before going.

The thinking behind pre-breakfast cardio is that it burns nothing but body fat and it cranks up your metabolism before eating breakfast.

Remember, though, that most ideas like that are for min/maxing only. For your average joe, just getting out there and running is what you should aim for. And the "stomach will cramp if you are active too soon after eating" thing is a myth. The truth is that activity diverts blood from your digestive system, so the food just sits there and can start to rot. However, if you can chunder down some food and hit the bricks immediately after without vomming up all of your food, then go for it. A good wait is 30 minutes, though, unless you just ate 2lbs of pasta or something ;)

Right, the problem is working out too soon after eating your body will just use what it just digested for energy rather than pull from reserves. At least this is what I'm being led to believe.

This bewilders me, Most sources (and in my experience) say that regular eating, 6 meals a day, is the best way to eat and that tends to work out to eating every 2 hours, wouldn't your 2 hour wait after eating mean that you could never workout?

No, it depends on how early you start your day and how early you end it but if he is actually eating 6 meals a day then he shouldn't worry as much because what he's eating is a small meal anyway.

The OP says he comes home late and is quite hungry so I doubted he was eating 6 meals a day and instead ends up eating a huge meal after work like a lot of people.

But two hours is stretching it, an hour would be fine I guess.

OP here

so I should'nt eat anything then? not even a banana, only drink some water?

Eat after and make it a light meal, switch to 6 meals a day ideally. You wouldn't be as hungry then and you'd keep your metabolism going the whole day. I still say do something in the morning, even if for only 20 minutes to start it up

In a perfect world, you should be eating this and that at work so you don't feel so hungry afterwards. If that isn't possible, you should at least eat something well rounded (chicken breast sammich and a small salad or something). Run whenever doing so is comfortable for you.

Not eating is far more damaging than burning what you just ate. If you let yourself go into starvation mode, you'll start STORING everything you eat as fat, whether you're doing cardio or not =(

well im not a morning-person and I live about 50mins away from work so in the morning is'nt gonna work for me but it should be fine doing it after work, I can endure waiting 1-2 hours with eating dinner to get a decent workout first so thanks for all the advice and guidence

proteiny and especially fatty foods like a cheeseburger can take 8 hours or more to go through your GI tract. a fruit can take 1-2 hours, so that's OK.

saftey is relative to workout intesity. Doing a shitload of abs on a full stomach will stop you before you get too far, eh?
