If you think about it, you're pretty much running and jumping in place.

That amounts to the same as going out for a jog (or a sprint, depending on the song) and cycling in a jump rope session.

So yes, it's decent cardio if the difficulty is high, and will work if you stick with it and diet accordingly.

A lot of people say it's worked really well for them, even without changing their diet. For me, it hasn't. I gained some leg muscle, but I didn't lose much fat. (Even though I'm quite heavy.) I played for several hours a day, two to six days a week.
