/fit/; I've been here for a while, and /fit/ is usually the right place to go. This advice is not for me, but for my mom. My mom is 55+, and is in pretty bad shape. She's pushing obese, and has had both knees replaced. This past week, the effort of merely sitting upright cause her major back problems, culminating in an MRI last night and a hefty dose of steroids. Because of her knee and back problems, I think she's realized that she has to change from a totally sedentary lifestyle. I have no idea what to tell her; strong lifts is far beyond her physical capabilities, as are most other routines i've seen. Please help suggest something /fit/. Pic very much so related

Dude, you do not want /fit/'s advice on stuff like this. Go to WebMD or MedHelp or something. Run, don't walk.

Walking seems like a good idea for her. I'm trying to think of other things that she might be able to do with little effort to help her probably atrophied muscles. I also explained to her that what she does at work doesn't count as exercise (such as walking during lunch).

walking, swimming, biking.

What the hell, /fit/. Stop trolling.

She wants SQUATZ

bodyweight is manly if she's fat, also.

swimming, super low impact, and considering how damaged she is, that's probably what's best. at least to start out.

no. she has knee and lower back problems. not only this would mean she has bad posture, but unless she has perfect form, her lower back andor knees could suffer.
i really doubt a 55+(shame on you op for not knowing her exact age) sedentary woman could land a perfect squat on the first try. it took me a few weeks and i'm fairly active.

OP here: I know, i'm just not saying. 55+ is enough for /fit/ to know. That being said, I suggested swimming and walking a mile (we have a landmark an even half mile away) and she liked it. Thanks fit, 'preciate it.
