Hello /fit/,

I have a question about running versus jogging versus walking. Currently, I speed walk on the treadmill for 30 minutes, and then I do a stationary bike for 20 minutes. I've been working out for about 5 years now, and no matter how hard I try, I CANNOT jog. After about a minute my heart and lungs start to hurt really bad and I have to stop. I have already tried working up to jogging for longer periods of time, but I just can't do it.

I am 5'5" and 120 lbs (female), so it isn't like I am too overweight to jog or anything.

Anyway, am I getting the same benefits from fast walking for 30 minutes as I would if I were jogging instead?

Not really. If your walking/jogging to lose weight, then walking will burn less calories than jogging. Just build up your endurance. Try walking for 5 mins then jogging 2 min, then walking. Just build up the time spent jogging until your comfortable.

But if jogging for a minute causes you so much discomfort you should see a doctor. If you have been working out 5 years then your body should be able to easily handle jogging. Something may be wrong with you.

You might want to see a doctor about that chest pain, it turned out to be a serious medical condition for me.

diet sodas are actually worse then the actual thing. its best to try and drink tea with a spoonful of sugar rather than to drink some soda.

I actually have seen a doctor about my heart. I was having chest pains from anxiety attacks and he gave me an EKG and ran some blood tests, but told me I was fine. My blood pressure is also perfect.

I guess I could go back and ask him why I can't jog. I have the feeling he would say "LOL IDK" and kick me out.

Powerwalking burns more calories than jogging, but that's only if you're actually walking faster than a slow jog (which isn't hard, but pretty uncommon to do for a full 30 minutes). However, it won't build up your cardiovascular endurance very well.

Goddamnit, Caboose, stop giving terrible advice. Processed sugar should never be consumed when trying to lose weight.

it just takes a lot of willpower. same thing happened to me when i first tried to get in shape. you just have to keep fighting it for a couple of weeks (it took me like 3).

For quicker results start RUNNING for like 10 seconds then step it up 5 seconds every day. eventually your heart will get use to the strain.

resident BBer too

Op: you need to calc what your heartrate should be for your desired results. Thats what you need to know, then do the activity that keeps you at your target heartrate

WHEN TRYING TO LOSE WEIGHT:

-AVOID SIMPLE SUGARS LIKE THE PLAGUE
-KEEP A 50/30/20 PROTIEN/CARBS/FAT RATIO
-CYCLE YOUR CARBS HIGHER IN THE MORNING AND TAPERING OFF THROUGH THE DAY
-CUT OUT THE SHIT FOOD JUST GET THE FUCK OVER IT
-WORK. THE FUCK. OUT. WEIGHT TRAINING + CARDIO = FAT LOSS.
-BE CONSISTENT.
-DO NOT DEPEND ON SUPPLEMENTS, THEY DO NOTHING WITHOUT PROPER DIET AND TRAINING.

how do you breath?

it is absolutly IMPORTANT that your breathing pattern is in sync with you jogging!!!
try:
out, out, in

also you shouldn't start full power:
take it slow first 5 Minutes so your body accomodates
