You're both fucking wrong, one of you less so, and I'll explain why:
Sourcing carbs from fruit\vegies inevitably means a large amount of fibre weight, keeps you feeling full without actually adding to your calories.
However, carbs are carbs, and energy is energy, if you want to lose weight without exercise, you'll need: Carb cycling through the day to control insulin: This means you can eat your toast\cereal for breakfast, and have some, but a small amount of carbs for lunch and then at dinner time, no pasta, no rice etc. For the 2 snacks between these meals (3, depending on when you eat) you'll want to stick to fats\protein.
If you are going to get your carbs, fruit and veggies are far better because as I said, lots of fibre to trick your body into thinking it's not fucking starved of energy.
Alot of leafy green vegetables are good, aside from the vitamins, the fact they've got very little energy for how much of them there is, makes them perfect for someone trying to stay full on very little energy.
A food break down: Breakfast - 2 scrambled eggs, 1 piece toast.
snack 1 - 2 handfulls of cashews
lunch - 1 grilled chicken breast, a salad (vinegar based dressing) and 1 banana
snack 2- another handfull of cashews (I like cashews, personally)
dinner - A metric fuckton of a lean cut of any meat, served with a salad (vinegar dressing again)
tl;dr Eat less carbs as the days go on.
Oh, and just fucking go for a run you lazy shit.
