Why are all of you trying to lose weight/get healthier? Is it because you want to look better? For your health?

I used to be really stupid and thought that all my social problems would be solved once I lost weight, bought nicer clothes, etc. Now it's that I want to be fit enough to be able to walk home instead of taking the bus, to prove to myself that I can overcome those cravings, little things like that. I'm not that fat[117 pounds] but it's more of a matter of fitness and not just weight for me.

Unless you're 600lbs, how would that ever be a problem? I'm at a quite fat 220 and I take 5-mile walks like that all the time.

I've always been fat, I was a fat baby and kid. I've never known what I look like not being fat. I got genetics working against me. I'm 6'7'' 20 years old and when I started working out a little while ago I was pushing 400 lbs, now i'm down to 380. Dispite this I have a girlfriend and a great social life, but the fact is... I don't want to die when i'm 35. Enough is enough amirite?

For me, it's because I know I'm capable of being thin, and yet I've always been too lazy to improve myself. I don't think it'll get me more friends, since I've already got plenty...but I look at myself in the mirror and think, "Wow, you're a fat fuck." I also hate how immediately after sex, I try and hide my stomach so my boyfriend doesn't see how hideously out of shape it is (he says I look just fine, but I weigh almost 40lbs more than I did when we first started dating, so I feel like a letdown). I hate how I don't even fit into my fat clothes anymore.

Basically, I want to lose weight because I hate what I've let myself turn into and so I can stop being such a pathetic fucker.

Program yourself into thinking that losing weight would be a good idea. You don't even need a reason.
When you start seeing result, satisfaction will keep you going. It's not unlike leveling up in an MMO, except it actually means jack shit.

i want the confidence that comes from building a powerful body.

i'm never going to go the route of serious lifters, just try and push myself to what my body will naturally allow.

i'm also taking tae kwon do for similar reasons.

I dont care what anybody thinks. I like being 195 lbs. I have a girlfriend, and I'm not worried about collecting a new one.

But I need to lose weight and get back in shape if I want to join the army. (as an officer). So Its a career thing. :-\

i'm short, so even when i'm only 5-10 pounds overweight it really really shows. i also havent gotten any exercise in the past few years other than walking my dog 2 miles every other day, so i pretty much have no muscles.

That can be a double-edged sword. Make sure you're not purely doing it for him, because (knock on wood) if things don't work out you might revert to your normal patterns and that would suck.

As some other anons, I've always been the "big guy" in school and groups. Due to my height of 6'6, I'll always be the "big guy", but I'd like it to be because I'm tall, not a fatty.

I enjoy it. I like the feeling of focussing on one thing entirely and being absent in all other ways.

I want to be able to defend myself.

I want to be able to overcome illness and injury, should the worst happen.

Health reasons only. I couldn't care less if I spend the rest of my life alone, I just don't want 'the rest of my life' to mean a measly three decades or less. Also, a jolly, likable fat cousin had a stroke last November. Seeing that once-awesome dude in a coma was nearly enough to scare the fat fuck right out of me.

If OP is really only five feet, then 90 pounds is still a healthy weight and 117 may very well be a bit chubby.

I want to lose weight to look hot, and gain muscle so I can kick some ass.

Went from 175 to 105, people didn't treat me like shit anymore, but I did almost end up in treatment.

Quit caring about everything, now I'm up to 130.

I miss climbing mountains.

I was blessed with a great body, I have no disabilities. It sickens me that I have abused my body so much, I want to use it properly, push myself to the limit. :)

I'm trying to get myself into excercising because I know I would be able to pull myself out of my basement dwelling situation if I wasn't a fat slob. I also stutter and while I try telling myself that I don't care about it, I'm not sure that's the whole truth

I don't particularly need to lose weight, even though I'm slightly overweight at 190 lbs, 6'. I started lifting weights about half a year ago on and off because my body had atrophied so much that my forearm was basically a cylinder. I saw this and it dawned on me that if I kept going I was gonna turn into a weak fat bitch at some point. So I grabbed the weights and saw some results. Been lifting and running regularly for two months now and I feel better and see the results. I want to keep going with this so that I can basically prove that I have the self-control to actually follow a regime, and so that I look and feel good.

I enjoy being able to go play soccer with my friends on the weekends and not pay for it the next morning.

I enjoy being able to play with my nephews and not be exhausted by them.

I enjoy feeling like I can live.
