with cooking, it's a case of Just Do It.
here's some simple stuff:
rice: boil it for 10-20 mins, it's done! frozen veggies: boil for 5 mins chicken breasts: -put some olive oil on -some rosemary -grill for about 15-20 mins on each side
beef: fry onions at 1/3rd of full temp, with some oil (not a lot, not a little, but as little as possible) then put the onions somewhere else and wipe the pan clean. put stove to full temp for a min and then stick the mince or steak in, and turn it over every 45 seconds or so.
You just get a feel for cooking after a bit. it's not hard!
