I've been thinking about quitting cigarettes for quite some time, /fit/.

I'm very active, go to the gym daily. I smoke a bit under a pack of cigarettes a day.

My question; has anyone had experience quitting cigarettes? Did you notice an increase in your physical endurance once you quit? Any tips on quitting?

Oh, and fuck nicorette, I'd prefer cold turkey.

It's going to make you feel like shit and act like shit for a while. But hey. Barack Hussein Obama did it. You're not going to let a Muslim do better than YOU are you?

it's like a few days of being pissed off then you're over it

The first 3 days will be hell. It will get better afterward.

What concerns motivation, calculate how much you spend on cigarettes a year. That was enough for me.

Go on cold turkey. If you won''t make it - you're a pussy

I quit cold turkey about 3 months ago. I mostly quit because I finally got worried about my health. If you go cold turkey, you can't cheat. no sneaking drags, or just one while at a party or while having a beer. You just have to not touch them at all. My method mostly involved not hanging out with anyone and locking myself in my room for about 4 days so my increased moodiness wouldn't piss off my friends.

to some extent, it depends on how long you've smoked, but after the initial irritability, you notice improved lung function pretty quick. if you're a long time smoker, you'll probably start coughing up nasty shit, but that's a sign of your cilia growing back and cleaning crap out of your lungs

My runs started feeling better within 2 weeks, like the air was cleaner and easier to breathe.

Yes, I quit several years ago.

There was a SIGNIFICANT increase in endurance. Also a massive increase in appetite.

Take a week off from work/school/whatever might stress you out, grit your fucking teeth and suffer. It'll be worth it.
