hey /fit/, seeing as this is also health, I come to you with a bit of a problem. (Warning, pretty gross)
For the past number of years (Can't remember exact;y, but quite a few) I've had a small lump-like object in my left ass-cheek. I know it's not cancer, because nothing has been going on with it, and its been there forever. Sometimes, it would get big and swell up and generally hurt, but shortly go right back.
Well, recently it had swelled up again, but this time it didn't recede. It stayed large and painful, and I recently discovered most of the pain was because some of it had come close to the surface of the skin, like a big zit or something. So today, I decide I've had enough of this, and went to the bathroom sink and proceeded to pop it. What I got was (as expected) pus and blood. As I continued to empty it, there wasn't much more pus, but all that was squirting out was blood. Just blood. So I apparent;y had a large bubble of blood in my left ass cheek. I think I drained it (mostly at least) and covered it with a couple band-aids and it doesn't hurt anymore. But I'm still worried. WTF was that?? Any help guys? Also I'm screwed as of now because I do not have health insurance.

it probably was just a big zit.

A tiny cyst?

it could have started as a deep zit but then escalated into a blood blister and then a blood clot. It was probably totally benign and you shouldnt worry.

You were smart though to take care of it yourself and not freak out. Its just flesh after all, it'll heal.

Thanks guys, I didn't think it was too serious, but considering I had a small fountain of blood for a good 3-5 minutes of squeezing, I started to get a little worried. I replaced the old band-aids with a new one and put some neosporin on there as well.

hey guys OP here again. I'm not sure if I'm in the clear yet. I just got out of the shower, and before I went in, I decided to check on it, and it seems to have filled with blood again. Not as much as last night, but enough that I was squeezing out little bits at a time throughout the course of my shower. I'm less worried at the fact that it didn't seem to heal closed last night, but more worried at the thought of how much blood I could be losing.
Help?

just see a doc, if you don't want to see your normal doctor, find another one that your insurance accepts, tell him what happened and what you did and he should be able to help

My dog had something like this on her ear. From what I remember, apparently the cappilaries between the layers of skin burst and started leaking and forming a bubble. The vet drained it once and it came back again, and he made a somewhat big hole so that it could bleed out finally.

I get this shit in my ear lobes. Its like its too deep to be noticed as a zit, but you can feel its there. I've forced popped them before, and now they're all healed up, but all I'm left with are some pretty big craters. OP, but since it was on your ass, and I'm imagining it was huge, there's a big possibility it will keep getting reinfected. So go see the immedia-care place, they'll take care of ya. And you might end up with a cool crater in your ass cheek.

install a tap on your ass-cheek

It was just a cyst. They happen occasionally. Keep the wound clean, stick a piece of gauze into it for drainage, only keep it covered for a day or so. It will probably keep draining for a while, but this is normal.

If the area continues to swell or becomes hot/red/irrtated go to a clinic immediately, otherwise you should be just fine.

that was an abscess, probably pilonidal cyst. i've had to drain a number of these back as a med student in ER and during my internship.

don't worry about the amount of blood, that was typical. but, what you had will probably recur. at the very least, you should visit your family doc and get some antiobiotics. if your problem recurs, get a referral to a general surgeon and he can excise the whole thing.

push down on the flesh around the opening really really hard, to try and put pressure on the internals and force them out, if youre lucky youll get whatever caused the infection, if it is a pilonidial cyst, you'll probably get a clump of hair, theyre absolute cunts to deal with, but yeah, once you clear the initial clump of hair youre sweet.

Just remember, if you sit around alot, make sure you dont sit on your tailbone, fix your posture, AND, exercise alot, it will help

OP here. Thanks guys for all the help, seriously.
I will try out what>>68437,>>68433, and>>68429said, but I don't think I can "stick a piece of gauze into it" or squeeze the potential clump of hair out as the hole is rather small. I do do a fair amount of exercise riding my bike, but I'm not sure if that's going to make it better or worse.
If it does keep this up for much longer though and/or conditions worsen, I will indeed try and find the nearest clinic or immedia-care.
Thanks guys.
