Sup guys. I posted this on a bodybuilding forum but people were just telling me to eat more protein and telling me to do something other than stronglifts.

I just started working out for almost 2 months now. I'm 18 years old, 5'9 and ~145 lbs.
The first month I was doing a generic workout with machines that I found online but after a month I started Beginner's Stronglifts 5x5 because I am pretty weak and someone told me I should start it. I never did barbell workouts in my life so I wanted to try it. I do 5x5 every other day with about 20 minute cardio every other workout day.

Picture is me at the moment. Not much improvement in looks but I feel a lot stronger than when I started.

It is now my 5th week now with stronglifts and my stats are, Squat:165lbs, Deadlift:195lbs, Bench:105lbs, Overhead Press:85lbs.

My diet is not that strict at the moment(I need to go back to the grocery store) but I try to eat 1.2xMyBodyWeight for protein. I am currently trying to bulk up because I barely have any muscle mass. Is this right or am I doing it wrong?
A guideline I try to follow is this for my diet:
176g Protein
566g Carbs
75g Fat

Should have taken that out. Some guy told me about how I'm not even capable of cutting but yeah I know now. I was just wondering because people say its easier to start off lean and then bulk.

Just because you don't see the results doesn't mean they're not there.

I don't really know if you ned 1.2xBW for protein. Most mis/fit/s would tell you 1g per or less. Personally, I'm .5g per, but I'm not bulking or cutting.

Give it more time, the results will start to show. Just make sure you're eating clean, taking rest days and drinking plenty of water.

i've been on stronglifts for about 2 months, 71kg 5'10, quite happy with the results but i'm not actually looking to bulk up. i've lost a few kg in fat and gained muscle.

i don't think stronglifts is a bulking program. from what i've heard lifters looking to gain mass generally start with a strength training program (like the one youre on) and then progress to a bulking program once they've achieved a solid foundation in strength training.

that said, is you just want to bulk you should eat a lot more than what you're eating and drink a gallon of milk a day. You're diet looks like someone who wants to cut fat while maintaining muscle mass rather than someone whos trying to gain.

If I were to follow my guidelines to the T then I would be eating 3684 cal/day. Most of that is from all the carbs.(sugar from the syrup on my waffles). Here WAS my bulking diet but I stopped because of lack of groceries.

2 Packets of Oatmeal instant
1 cup Milk
2 Slices wheat bread
1 Banana
1 Egg
1 tbsp Canola Oil
1 cup dole orange pineapple banana

Workout+Whey Protein

Meal 2:
1 Apple
28 ALmonds

Meal 3:
2 piece Chicken breast
1 cup rice

Meal 4:
3/4 Cup Frosted Flakes
1 cup Milk
1 Banana

Meal 5:
2 Slices wheat bread
6 slices turkey
2 tbsp peanut butter
1 Apple

Meal 6:
2 Eggos Waffles
9 tbsp Aunt Jemima syrup

Before Bed:
1/2 cup Cottage Cheese

why the fuck are you eating so many carbs?

Eat 1/2, if not 1/4 of the carbs you're eating, and up your protein/fats.

Stronglifts can be a bulking program if you are willing to eat enough. Squats, deadlifts, bench presses and the like are the best mass-building exercises

theres no such thing as a "bulking program"

there is a bulking diet but no bulking workout. 5x5 is perfect if you want to cut or bulk or do whatever you want. just focus on diet

If your looking to bulk up and dont need the cardio, take it down to 5 minutes to warm up. At your size im guessing youre somewhat ectomorphic. Just eat, eat and eat (good shit of course) and you'll be fine. Since youre just beginning and skinny, you dont need to worry about a set diet, I know how stressful that can be.

Your fat and protein look good but you need way more Cal, so more carbs. You could probably increase your fat a bit, but I wouldn't worry about it.

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/harris-benedict-equation/

Eat 500 Cal more than you find from that.

Just to give you a bit of a guideline.

I'm 20, 5'5", around 6% body fat.

I eat at least 150 g protein, 60-110g fat, and fill in the blank with carbs until I get up to 3000 or more Cal.
