I'm already on the path to losing weight. I religiously count calories and eat right and run daily, but this got me wondering: if running an hour a day only burns hypothetically 300 calories, including ones through slightly increased metabolism from running, how else would someone benefit from running instead of eating 300 calories less that day, in terms of weight loss? I realize sitting around and eating less isn't as healthy, but would someone reach the same weight goal in the same amount of time if they just adjusted their diet accordingly to make up for the lack of exercise?

If you just sat on your ass and ate less, you'd suffer muscle loss, not fat loss.

same calorie deficit would produce SIMILAIR weight loss, except they'd lose the thermic effect of eating (which adds to daily calories burned).

The reason the running is good is increased endurance, builds good habits, maintains muscle mass etc

And are you sure running's only 300 an hour? it sounds very low to me, I thought it was like 500 -.-

But I got it from looking on some site for the amount of calories in a banana, and it was like "110 calories. You can burn this amount of calories by doing: 45 minutes of walking, 34 minutes of running" etc. etc.

Sheesh, I think I'll stick to olympic lifts and high volume for my weight loss =p (I can't run to save myself)

But the benefits of eating more and burning it over just not eating it are quite extensive, and they all basically come back to meaning "Because you wont be fucked up from it"
and it builds a sustainable lifestyle, whereas no one wants to eat like an 8 year old asian forever.

AND THINK OF ALL THOSE JELOUS STARVING NIGGER KIDS! =D

Fewer muscles to get sore, and that much less weight to carry. More power to him that he can run fast, but it's bullshit.

He requires a lot more power to get going, a lot of it is lateral rotation. He compensates by using other muscles in his torso.

Even so, the carbon fiber rods retain only about 70% of the energy whereas regular knees retain much more.

So while his top speed may be fast, it takes a longer amount of time for him to get going, and also to slow down. It's all fair in my book.
