hey /fit/, i have a question
my brother's chest caves in, he works out and his chest can build muscle, but theres this area in the center of his chest, a little to the right, that just caves in and doesn't grow. I was wondering why it does that.

Genetic, physical deformity. That's a condition, wait for some other dude by the name of David to say what is the correct name for it, because I forgot that.

pectus excavatum

It's his sternum and potentially some ribs that did not grow properly. They simply didn't rise enough, so to speak. It's a fairly common birth defect. Laymen call it a "concave chest", medically it is called "pectus excavatum". I done gone lurnt dis in mah anatoemee klas.

There's no real fix for it. Surgery can be done, but it's dangerous. Likely, pectus excavatum is coupled with a heart that is slightly or moderately placed incorrectly, which might cause heart defects and cardiovascular issues...or might not. Needs to be x-rayed to find out for sure.

In some cases, this is a completely superficial condition that is not threatening, in other cases it might end up causing an early death due to heart and chest problems.
