If I'm trying to cut fat, what's going to burn more calories of it:

a) Running 4 miles
b) HIIT for 2 miles?

And could you explain why? Knowing why might be cool.

HIIT would be better for fat burning, during the exercise itself a longer sustained less intense exercise like jogging will burn more, but the prime effect of HIIT is the way it forces your metabolism into overdrive, which over the course of a days repairing your body, will burn more calories that sustained exercise.

think minutes and not miles. HIIT can burn more in half the time if you are really pushing your intense periods and keeping your slow periods to a minute or less. keeping a constant pace will never push your heart rate as high as HIIT.
