Why the fuck would anyone want to squat? It just ruins your back and does nothing useful that you could not do with other exercises.

I dare you to prove me wrong. With legimate sources that show clear benefits.

if the picture with this post is your goal, you will squat.

if not, don't squat.
>> Anonymous
Cause it will make you strong.
I can lift a fuckton, which is handy when I do garden work.
>> Anonymous
you are squatting wrong
knee can go over toes

if you try to keep your lower leg perpendicular, you save maybe 40% stress on the knees, but add like 1200% stress to the lumbars.

one guy does leg press
one guy does squats

3 months later, squat guy will rape leg press guy, even on the leg press.

fyi, an 800lb leg press will probably only equate to a 315lb squat

Its like squatting is the /b/ part of /fit/. People (trolls) want you to hurt yourself. Its the /b/ equivalent of download this cp/virus, except squatting can really hurt you.

yea i fucked up my lower right back doing squats/deads
i havent lifted in months hoping it would go away but it hasnt.
so i guess now ill have a permanent nagging lower back pain that shoots down my leg for the rest of my life because of bad advice from a personal trainer :(

I know a 90 lbs. kid who can squat 325 lbs. This is why you should squat - because there is a kid half your weight out there who's warming up with your max.

Also, you want to make your entire body strong. Legs are a part of your body. Squats make your legs strong. GOGOGO

I don't know what you whiny bitches are crying over.
Started squatting, cleaning and deadlifting when fit recommended it to me and I am fine.
You just use wrong technique or don't inform yourself enough. Knowledge is power.
Tldr: Don't do manly things if you are a pussy.

Most of the people on this board are teenagers who haven't encountered injury yet, so just give it time and they'll agree with you soon enough.

people who say squatting is dangerous are the following:

Too retarded to learn proper form
Too scared
Too big of an ego to lower the weight and squat right

The squat is the #1 best exercise. it strengthens your back, your traps, your abs, your quads, your glutes, your hamstrings. more than half your body is worked.
squats cause your body to release GH because of the nature of the loading on the spine
squats can aleiviate knee and back problems when done properly
squat make you run faster, jump higher, they make you more virile, more confident, more energetic. they help pack on muscle, or burn fat due to the compound nature of them.

there is NO substitute for a back or front squat. leg press is NOT the same motion, hack squat is NOT the same motion.

i have NEVER hurt myself squatting, because i squat right and i keep the weights in a range i can handle and hit proper depth.

the reason YOU get hurt squatting is because you have no communication with your body, your just fucking flair around with a barbell and dont have any sort of mind muscle connection. you fucking fail at lifting weights, get the fuck out of my gym and sit in your office cubicle wasting away until you are just a feeble brain with sticks for limbs who whines about how hard squats are

I am 90kg and squat 240kg with belt and straps, I have been doing this for 12 years and no reoccurring injuries. Most people fuck there lower back due to lack of strength, no back support. It would be fair to say there are much more harming exercises such as military press seated with my lower back support.

injuries happen, its the price you pay for being stronger than 99% of the population. you just treat it and train through it. if you've been squatting for a decade and tear your quad its going to heal way faster than some puss who tried to get under his bodyweight and got fucking flattened

Where can I find a really good, credible guide on how to squat with barbells? And will squatting with only 25lb barbells do anything?

the guy squatting is a monster. lol at puking.
That level of training is extreme though.
Seriously doubt it's healthy to push it till you puke.
But nobody is forcing you to do that eh?

>some puss who tried to get under his bodyweight and got fucking flattened

This statement has merit. I see a lot of people try and squat immense amounts when they're green, because they think they need to look tough. Be a man, and use only the bar in the beginning, or hell, even some lighter free weights.

A few months of hurt pride is better than a lifelong injury.

weights are way heavier than beginners think. i remember when i first picked up an empty bar i was like holy shit this is heavy. 45lbs is alot of weight for a beginner.

it took me 1 year of squatting almost every workout to get to 225lbs for a single.

noobs truly dont realize the difference between a weightlifter and an average person. miles and miles. but once they get that taste of what it feels like to TRULY be strong, you get hooked.

i have felt 405lbs in my hands (rack pull with straps) it felt like the heaviest thing ever, but some people can lift that over their head. they must feel like they could snap ordinary people in half.

seriously, i can rip up stairs 3 at a time and not even have a faster heart beat. i could never go back to being weak and small

I was the same when I first started lifting. I hurt myself using the girl bar (35 lb, but still a good amount), so I began squatting with just gravity. :P
>> Anonymous
So what should you do if you already have a lower back injury that gets worse whenever you try lifting? :/
Can doctors even fix those?
>> Anonymous
>>136802

It depends. Ask a doctor, and he'll tell you how to proceed.
>> Anonymous
>>136802

ease into it. start with 0 weight. get a foam roller, it kicks ass

another little tool i have is 2 tennis balls taped together, lay on this. its going to hurt at the start but once you roll it from your upper back all the way to your sacrum and out you feel amazing. go slow

stretch, use bands

I'd be more concerned about the ligaments in my knees than the discs in my back. A well conditioned back (done through stiff-legged deadlifts, supermans, planks and overhead squats) is a must for squatting anything over 100 lbs. But muscular endurance and strength won't help take pressure off those ligaments.
>> Anonymous
>>136813
seconded.
can't really train the knees and the cartileges are easy to ruin and they don't grow back.

If you are squatting deep enough, your VMO (vastus medialus) will get stimulated, this aids tremendously in knee stability.

the VMO is the "Teardrop" on the inner thigh
>> Anonymous
>>136802

Practice technique. Look in mirror. Watch videos. Use bar w/ bodyweight.

I am sure you are rounding your back, I have the same problem. A squat with proper technique does not stress your lower back at all.
