What's a good gym/fitness club? Anonymous
24 Hour Fitness?
Balley Total Fitness?
Other?

Portland, Oregon anon here. Looking to lose large (think 150lbs+) amounts of weight. I've already got the diet thing worked out, now I'm wondering what the best gym would be. Any other anons have experiences to tell?

Relevant info: I live within about a half-hour's walking distance of a 24 Hour Fitness. I'm kind of afraid of going there and being the only fatty, especially since this particular club seems to be designated with a specialization in sports.

Pic is of the sweet nectars that I shall never be able to taste again ;_;

Don't worry about being the only fatty. You won't be the only one, and even if you are, no-one cares.

I almost went to Portland for college!

Well, anyway, I am a member of Bally's Total Fitness. I can't say a lot about other gyms because I haven't been to other gyms before, but a lot of my friends go to LA Fitness.

There's always diet drinks.

VancouverWaFag here.

Well neighbor, those look like some tasty beverages. What you should do, is trial each of them. They'll let you. They should anyhow. And when you've tried them all, figure out what is best for you.

Being too self-conscious to the gym is just as ridiculous as being too self-conscious to go outside the place you live.

If you can drag your ass to work/school/whatever the hell you do, then you can go to the gym. Typically, people usually respect your more if you're a fatty in the gym than if you're just a fatty in the city.

I got to the YMCA, but that's because:
-It's the closest
-My family and I are on a plan
-It's got a lot of cool stuff (plasma TVs, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, free babysitting...)

Yeah, or (god forbid) moderation.

This anon speaks the truth. In my experience people generally don't care about fat people. If they say anything it's just to encourage them. Then again, the student gym here isn't filled with asswipes.

GL OP, you've made a good decision.

I'd recommend any gym with both elliptical machines and a pool for laps. Both are low stress (running will kill your joints if you don't lightly exercise 'em first) and swimming is always fun as shit.

Vancouver, WA fag here. I only know a couple real gymnasiums with trampolines and shit teaching little Russian girls how to jump.

What you want to weigh is cost, proximity, and cool shit it has.

As far as the confidence issue is concerned there's a couple ways around it. You could suck it up and just do it, you'll probably feel better about yourself after exercising and eliminate that. You could find a partner who knows what they're doing so you have someone joke around with. And finally, if you don't have any friends, you could hire a personal trainer for a day or two to show you around and some exercises to do so you don't feel completely lost.
