I'm 18.For the past few years I've been taking naps after school. It started with short, 2 or 3 hour ones.As time went on,they got longer. Now its at the point where I need 4 to 7 extra hours of sleep each day or I'll just pass out as soon as I can sit down.when this happens,I have trouble falling asleep at night and I get all screwed up. please help.

Pic unrelated, internet is too fucked up for me to look for another one.

Look at your diet. Some of the food you're eating may be causing it. Try staying away from caffeine products for a while and drink water. Force yourself to stay awake an entire day and then get a perfect 8 hour sleep, making sure you fall asleep at an appropriate time, such as ten or eleven, and when you wake up, stay up. Eventually your sleep patterns will level out.
Also, try running and exercising. You get much more restful sleep that way.

Your problem is the same as jet lag. You arent used to it the normal cycle that most people are but if you just stay up till its the correct time you will have no problem adjusting without the jet lag. So do this.

Stay awake till however long it is and sleep after 6-7 in the evening. If you get a good night sleep you will be awake by 6 in the morning. Now that youve woken up at 6 go through the day without sleeping in between no matter what and by 9 in the night you will be sleepy as hell since youve been up for about 12-15+ hours now.

Also, 2 or 3 hours is not a short nap. I take naps around lunch time, but 15 or 20 minutes tops.

4-7 hours isn't a nap, it's a full nights sleep for some people.
