Hello /fit/, I looked like this 5 years ago, and now I'm fat (I got a job at McDonalds, worst thing you can ever do).

I was wondering, is running or walking a better way to lose weight? My goal is to be back "in shape" before Februrary, I miss having girlfriends on Valentines day.

running and walking burn exactly the same amount of calories *apparently* ive never actually checked.

running is generally a better idea because it trains heart and lungs too not just burning fat.

I can almost guarantee that if you ran for 10 minutes vs walking for 10 minutes, you would burn more calories running.

Running a mile burns about a 100 calories.
Walking one burns about 75.

If you're a fatass (fatass being 250+) OP then walk for now because it could be too hard on your joints. If you're not, then pick which ever one gives you the results you like.

here is all you need to objectively tell the difference

ACSM running equation: VO2 = [S × 0.2] + [S × G × 0.9] + 3.5

ACSM walking equation: VO2 = [S × 0.1] × [S × G × 1.8] + 3.5

note the multiplier difference of .1 vs .2
that, literally, is the difference in terms of metabolic stress between the two forms (over the length of the training bout)

Well, I guess I'll help. I'm not sure how much you weigh and what you want to get to, but losing 1-2 lb a week is possible. The best way I can suggest is to knock off 500 calories off of the daily amount you need (you can look this stuff up), and do some cardio and lifting. Ideally, you want to run when doing cardio, but starting off running isn't easy if you're fat or haven't been active in a while, so I suggest walking fast at first and building up. You want to get around 45 min of cardio at least 5 days a week.
