My trainer says to skip stretching because that will allow you to rip/break/whatever more muscle fibers when lifting.

Does this make any sense, and what do you do, /fit/?

I would not recommend it. I stretch frequently after warmup and at the end of every workout. Not only does it increase flexibility, and reduce your risk of injuring yourself/damaging your muscles, it helps with DOMS.

Stretching cold rips muscle fibers or whatever and that's bad. Active stretching is good for pre-workout. Static stretch after your work out. Having very flexible hamstrings is absolutely essential for correct squat form. Being flexible is also essential for physical health, especially down the road.
