Anyone can benefit from ring training.
Are you still in college? There might be a gymnastics club there, which would be a good place to start.
Here's a gymnastics site with exercise techniques: http://drillsandskills.com/
This site is run by an amateur gymnast/strength trainer, and has some good tutorials: http://beastskills.com/
Here's a good discussion on beginning a ring training program, though you'd have to cut back the volume if you're just starting. Look for the posts by Stephen Low. http://www.board.crossfit.com/showthread.php?t=24494

Stephen Low's Training Log: http://www.americanparkour.com/smf/index.php?topic=3048.0 This guy started gymnastics in college, and had the iron cross in about a year and a half. Now he's got the one-arm chin, and is working toward a 2x bodyweight pull-up. You can learn from him.
