How sore is too sore? What's a good way to gauge?

I'm not worried about the pain at all and in fact that's what has me worried. I don't want to hinder my progress by overworking myself. I'm horrifically sore today and assume that tomorrow I will be too (I didn't work out today) and am wondering if there's a decent way to tell if I should power through the pain or simply relax and let myself recover.

The soreness is a sign you stimulated the muscle effectively.

The people who tell you that soreness is a sign you're doing it wrong are the ones that are too pussy to put 100% into their workouts.

With that said though, be sure that what's sore is actually your muscles... if your joints/ligaments are what hurts, then you fucked up.

No no. I'm not worried about the soreness on the whole. I just know that there's times when you're too sore and you should let your muscles rest an extra day instead of assaulting them with yet another work-out.

I just can't tell if the soreness I have is acceptable (I'm REALLY sore) or if I'll be doing nothing but hindering myself by pushing through it.

Working out a muscle that's still sore from a workout that you did yesterday or the day before IS bad and it WILL limit your gains. Wait until you're not sore (or at least only marginally sore) before you work the sore muscles again.

Note: The soreness itself isn't bad - only working out while you're still sore is bad.

Note that excessive soreness can also be a result of dehydration

You have a shit load of muscles on your body OP. A few of them are sore? Well fuck them, go train different ones in the mean time.

Oh, I'm gonna.

I just didn't want to alter my routine unless I felt it was best to do so.

Actually if you're only a little sore you should still workout. Blood rushes into your muscles and makes it feel better.

I would only not workout if I couldn't move

If you feel sore on your rest days on your legs for example take a wake makes the world of differenace

I'm pretty sure I'm more than a little sore.

If it was just a little soreness I wouldn't stress it at all. I started a new work-out routine and it kicked the living shit out of me.

I'll point out, I wrestled all through highschool so I know what it's like to be sore. This is about as sore as I've ever been.

A bit off the point, I rarely ever feel sore these times. Even though I can feel my legs are tired from two days ago. Is this normal?
