Knuckle popping? Anonymous
I know this is a really controversial issue but is it bad? I do it alot. like 50+ times a day and have for about 9 years. I see no difference in size compared to my friends who dont( A common reason why people say not to is because it causes your knuckles to swell). The only thing that happens to me is my hands will often tighten up after playing games for hours. I dont know if this is normal but a good popping usually fixes the pain.
So /fit/ knuckle popping ok or bad?

It CAN lead to arthritis due to the wearing down of cartilage between the joints.

However, there are contradictory studies which say that joint popping can stop certain health problems and has nothing to do with arthritis.

It's perfectly fine. It's just the release of nitrogen between the joints. No link to arthritis whatsoever.

It used to be condemned but there are plenty of recent studies indicating that it's perfectly fine.

But I still try not to cause it sounds fucking retarded.

my chiropractic doctor with 10 years experience and opened 2 clinic locations says it's ok in moderation. don't go crazy. several times in succession is no problem. however continuously doing it for multiple minutes is a problem, or continuing much after the popping sounds stops, that's a problem too. excessive would be like past 15-20, myself i just stop after 3-4 times. times be careful with body weight bearing joints. hands, etc ok.

that's one of the jobs a chiropractor does, cracking joints.

all things in moderation.

you can say that, but mine makes pain go away much better than Vioxx or Aspirin ever did. you can say that, but have you ever tried it?

what about neck/back popping? i usually pop my back once or twice a day, but i have to pop my neck a few times an hour most times

I've never heard of someone who went to the chiropractor and then stopped going because they felt better. People always go there, feel better immediately then have to continually go there if they want that to continue.

It's complete bullshit.

of course they do. the cause of the pain is working out muscle groups unbalanced, or bad body posture habits. if these causes are not corrected, then lazy anons deserve to keep giving their money away.

if you want a pill that instantly turns off all the pain receptors, you may chug as many as you want. but myself i prefer to treat the cause of the pain, such as really unbalanced weight training or posture or shit like that. i.e. like all quads workouts and never any hamstrings. that's how i got knee pains.

at any rate, if you don't have any pains then it's supposed to be useless for you.
