I have a problem Anonymous
I hate running so instead I bike. biking a good way to loss weight?
>> Anonymous
It works but it takes 3-4 times longer to burn the same number of calories.
>> Anonymous
if your not into running try something a bit slower, jogging or fast paced walking work.

its that much of a difference? wow i did not know that. ill probably get started running then. many people on here seem to swear by HIIT, it really works to loose weight?

According to a study (I don't have the link to it, but I know someone here does) you lose more subcanteous fat when doing HIIT cardio over regular cardio (up to 4 times more iirc). Something about the constant shift in intensity causes the body to tap into your fat stores more.

ok so I should start doing that. thanks

I would like to see said study. Not that I'm skeptical, I just want to see it for myself.

so does that mean you need to increase your cardio by 3-4x the length you do daily if you do it speicifcally on a stationary bike?

Took some time, but I finally found it:
http://www.exrx.net/FatLoss/HIITvsET.html

>After a 5 week conditioning period on a recumbant cycle, The High Intensithy Interval Training (HIIT) group perform sprints while the Endurance Training (ET) group performed a more traditional aerobic protocol, throughout the remaining 15 weeks. Both groups progressed in intensity. At the conclusion of the study, the HIIT group lost over 3 times as much subcutanious fat as the ET group despite expending less than half as many calories. For every calorie expended during HIIT, there was a nine fold loss of subcutanous body fat, as compared to the ET group.

You're better off using the rowing machine.

Took me 6 minutes to burn 90cal on the rower, 20 mins to do the same on a bike

If you really want to be serious about weight loss you cant wimp out because you dont like something.

The easiest way to make really fast improvements is to find something you can barely do.

Youll see minimal gains if what your doing doesnt require effort on your part.

^^ your right I should just suck it up and run. Im going to go down to walmart tonight and gets some shorts and tomorrow im going to start HIIT. Im just really worried about my knees and such

I'm holding off on running exerises until I've lose a decent amount of weight.

I only get two ankles and I've grown really fond of them over the last few decades....

erm... 20 minutes from 90 Cal on a bike? wtf?

I burn about 140 on a bike for about 20 min...

So is HIIT that good? what should be the right timings?

OP here,in about 45 minutes i go 10 miles and according to the machine burn ~325 calories

if you're talking about excercise bikes then wouldn't an elliptical be better because that seems to burn more calories than a bike.
