Hey /fit/

Quick question. I exercise 3 times a week. Today I'm bored and I want to go swim laps for two hours. Seeing as I did that yesterday am I burning muscle?

I want to build muscle and tone. So would it be harmful to swim on successive days? My understanding is that I should have a day off to allow muscle growth.

No, you're in the water so rules on land don't apply. Go as long as you want, as long as possible. In fact, haven't you heard about muscle therapy in water? Your growth will actually speed up the more time you spend in water. Some research has even proven that poolwater will make your skin more elastic so as to improve your overall fitness in the long run. Of course, the more elastic you are, you shouldn't stop at just toning and swimming. Try finding a sport or martial art to tone AND improve your newfound elasticity even more. I suggest the 'Gomu Gomu no Mi'. It's a deadly form of fighting and makes use of your newfound ability.

Also check out thewillpower.org if you don't think you can swim consecutive days either.

I guarantee you arent training so hard that you need to be worried about overtraining by swimming 2 days in a row, because if you were you wouldn't even want to be moving that much in the first place

Well I guess it took the whole day to get an ambivalent reply.
