hey /fit Anonymous
this is pretty much my first time here, i'm joining a gym at the end of the month and would just like any general advice you have to give.

basically i'm not hugely overweigh also i'm getting sick of the way i look. i'd just generally like a tone up and to get some definition and shape.

i was leaning towards something more like mainly running and swimming as i used to swim a lot and could easily do i couple of miles (could probably do over a mile still now).

pic unrelated, i'm male, 21, roughly 5ft 8, 11.5 stone.

Lift, or it's pointless you having joined the gym.

www.stronglifts.com is a good place for a lifting program (see the beginners 5x5). You'll get a lot more definiton, and make significant strength gains (and no you won't become xbox huge, that takes ALOT of effort.)

Swim after lifting, and run outside of the gym 3~ days a week. Don't go to the gym to run though, treadmills are shitty compared to running outside. If you have to do something cardio based at the gym use an elliptical and do HIIT (interval training) instead.

google it.

the key factor is perseverance. Keep on doing whatever you are about to start on; eventually it will pay off.
