So, I'm finally going to the dermatologist this Wednesday to see what I can do about my acne. It's not terrible, but it is noticeable. What meds should I ask about? Any I should avoid? I've heard a lot of good things about Acutane, but I've also heard from some it can make you hugely depressed. What does Anon think about this?

Any advice you can give would be appreciated. Thanks Anon

We have this thread pretty much every day. Yes ask about Accutane. It is godly and will cure you. Yes there are side effects but is well worth it. Not everyone suffers from depression while on it either.

aren't those the questions you're going to see the dermatologist for in the first place.. let them take a look before trying to self prescribe

Accutane is the only thing that worked for me, and it's a miracle drug. You will get ridiculously dry skin and maybe eczema, but that goes away and is definitely worth it. People kill themselves on accutane not so much because it's a side effect of the drug, but more because it's a side effect of being a teenager especially one with horrible acne.

BUT PARENTS DON'T WANT TO FEEL LIKE BAD PARENTS SO THEY HAVE TO BLAME SOMETHING. IT MUST BE A SKIN DRUG THAT FORCED MY CHILD TO KILL HIMSELF. BAWWWWWW

Exactly. One of the better articles I read was about a kid who was on accutane, smoked salvia, then wrote a suicide not about how salvia opened his eyes and blah blah. Of course accutane contributed to his suicide. This kid also happened to be the son of a governor/senator/political asshat. All those hoops and red tape you have to get through to get accutane, yeah that's part of the reason.

If you're male then accutane is probably your top option.
I'm female, my acne isn't horrible, just fucking stubborn so my doc put me on cyestra (generic of Diane) because at 22 i'm too old to have hormonal skin :<

Teenagers commit suicide these days because they are bawwing little shitwipes who have no idea what a real problem is. Not because of a drug that clears their skin...

They all need to be put on a dude ranch for two years to learn to grow up.

So really, Accutane all around then? Well, that's what I'll ask the dr about then. Thanks Anon.

The doc won't generally put you on Accutane unless you have pretty severe acne.

1) it makes you very sensitive to the sun, you'll burn albino easy.
2) being that it is extreme, I find docs not apt to give it until you try weaker concoctions like two common antibiotics that I can't remember what they are... I think Amoxicillin is one. Sorry I can't remember the other.
3) Cost.

But if you have cystic, then I think you are a shoo-in. If you are just white-head city, sorry pizzaface, don't think you are going to get it.

btw, I had medium acne with a few cystic ones on my chin and chest. 2.5 months on Accutate made it amazing. Cystics were completely gone, most everything was gone. I thought it was a wonder drug.

Over the years I get the occasional minor breakout, but nothing a little warm wash and relaxed diet can't fix.
