Hey /fit/. This is my first post here. My whole life I've been chubby, and my whole life I've wished it was different. I can never motivate myself, but I saw an ad today for the program in the picture. Does anyone have any info on this? I only ask because I obviously don't have much self-motivation, and a program with everything laid out for me sounds like it could work.

I suppose this could get you on the way. 90 days for anything to do with your body is extremely generous, but you should definately see results. Going from no exercise to at ANYTHING is a great change.

On the other hand, I would hate to see you get ripped off. Perhaps you should just ask /fit/ (maybe start another thread?) to help you devise a fitness regime + nutrition plan? I've found this is one of the most helpful boards on 4chan, so you should get some responses or at least pointers in the right way.

Do you have a gym membership? Do you have any interest in getting one? Do you buy your own food, or do you live at home with your parents buying food?

Answer some of these questions and maybe I can do a bit to help you. I'm no expert, and there are plenty of people in /fit/ who are more knowledgeable than me, but I don't think too many people are on this late.

OP here,

Yeah I thought about that, if I can find it.

No gym membership, but I can use the one at my college for free. I am at home with my parents. Pretty busy schedule, so I turn to fast food more than I'd like. I have, however, taken a first step in not buying soda anymore.

If you have time to eat, you have time to eat healthy.

That's good.

If you are a fast food fiend (I used to be) and depend on it (I do sometimes because of a heavy touring schedule) you should go to your favorite fast food places websites and dig into their nutrition info. Instead of getting the combos, make your own. The "Wendy's Power Combo" for me is a Small Chili and Side Salad. Two bucks and a full stomach at 250 calories and about 26g of protein and 6g of fat.

Just do some research and think health. I know it's a fucking retarded statement, but being healthy is definately a lifestyle change, both physically and mentally. You have to mentally prepare yourself for your "new life."

You're right. I just need someone TELLING me this, because my family certainly isn't helping.

OP, I suggest seeing a doctor first, but here's pretty much what he'll tell you.

Start slow. Diet is going to be more important than exercise in the beginning months (and maybe forever), so make sure you get squared away on that. I suggest you eat whole grains, lots of fruits and vegetables, and lean meats. Try hard to stay away from fast food. People often go to fast food because they fail to plan their diet. Make a healthy grocerey list and stick to it. Drink a lot of water. Try to drink at least 1 8oz glass before a meal. Also try to drink when you think you are hungry. Sometimes, your body just wants some water when it starts feeling empty. When you still feel hungry, grab some food. Don't overeat. This might seem easy, but this is what was killing me. Have your portions in front of you and don't eat out of the bag/box.

As far exercise, start with walking outside, or using the elliptical in a gym. If you can swim, do that. When you can, start to jog a little once or twice a week. Slowly work your way up to running. Make sure you have some decent walking/running shoes to prevent injuries. For weightlifting, if you never lifted before, you might want to invest in a personal trainer (if you don't have a friend) to help you learn the basic moves. They can offer immediate corrections on your form to prevent you from developing habits that could lead to injury. If you can't afford one, check out lifting videos on free sites like crossfit.com and exrx.net (animooted gifs there). But start light and use high reps (15-20 per set) and slow, deliberate movements. Your first month or so will be establishing good form you will use for a lifetime.

Finally, write everything down. What you eat, when you workout. It seems like a pain, but it helps a lot in achieving your goals. I use fitday.com because it remembers recent foods and activities (and allows custom items).

I can't think of anything else at the moment, but feel free to ask any questions.

Seconding the fuck out of "never eat out of a bag/box." You should ALWAYS pour out a serving into a bowl or cup or plate and eat it that way. When it's gone, you can decide if you want more or not. When you eat out of the bag/box, you just keep shoving your hand down in there until it's empty and then you're all OH SHI- because you just ate an entire goddamn box of food, you fuck!

The other important thing, I've found, is leave yourself some room to fuck up and chill out. I eat pretty healthy six days a week, and then on saturdays or sundays, I go ahead and eat something that's awful for me, as a break. Don't pig the fuck out, but go ahead and have the hamburger or slice of pizza. Just don't overdo it and get back into your routine the next day.
