Need a quick tip, obviously there is a difference between running/jogging/walking on a flat surface as opposed to on an incline, but how much of an incline is needed to make a difference?

I've attempted to use treadmills in the past and saw they only gave up to 10 degree inclines, (Or at least the incline was measured on a scale of 1-10, I don't recall.)

What I'm wondering is would upping the incline magically do something? Like if I just get used to a 5 degree incline as opposed to flat? Or it really a whole bunch of nothing?

It'll affect your heart rate and in turn the number of calories burned.

For fat fucks such as myself who cannot maintain a low enough heart rate by jogging, walking on an incline is a great alternative. Just get walking at a comfortable pace, then increase the incline by 3%, check your heart rate, and keep inclining until you hit your target. If your legs get tired, reduce speed and increase incline.

BTW, target heart rate is (230 - your age) * .7
