Honestly, being in the army is not what you think it is. They don't show you the real shit in the news, commercials, and in the movies. It is the most degrading human job you could ever encounter. Go be a janitor. You'll get paid more to do the same job and you will have the benefit of not being shot at while spending 15 months at a time in a hell hole. Unless your choices are join the army or die next week don't enlist.

>>123794

You're an idiot. The Army is a joke, but the most degrading job? Yeah, bawwww, I have to work hard ;_;

Enjoy spending your time defending the interests of special people who don't give a fuck about you and work actively to reduce your benefits.

Read: Getting paid to kill.

All further arguments are invalid.
>> Anonymous
>>123805

Most humans don't have the capacity to kill. Most of the casualties in Iraq and Afghanistan are from indirect artillery fire and air strikes. The infantry are the ones who see their friends die, then kill an enemy, then have to cope with those horrible events for the rest of their lives and end up questioning why either of those people had to die, because months after that soldier shot that Iraqi fighter, he's going to wonder if it was really right to go into their country (it wasn't) and start destroying things for no real reason.

Also, the pay is very bad. If you work at McDonald's, you're also getting paid to kill people. McDonald's = military service.

Join the airforce instead, nice cozy desk job, plus the fact that the airforce hasn't had a major dogfight since WWII.
>> Anonymous
Here's what you should do, join the army and work your ass off to to join special forces. Once you get a nice resume
quit and get a job at a private contractor. MUCH better pay and pretty much everything.

No, most humans nowadays are lulled into a false sense of life.
Life is survival of the fittest, and if it comes to it, I'll bash your skull in with a rock, or my foot, whichever necessary for that last piece of meat.

You're full of shit. Most of the causalities in Iraq and Afghanistan are from IEDs and other explosives moron, and SOME mortar fire.
Which, if you look, is EXTREMELY low compared to pretty much any other war America has been in.

It's fucking treehuggers like you that fuck shit up, you know that? It doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, it's the fact that it's being done. You follow your orders, that's it.

Because McDonalds is healthier and pays more than the military, GTFO.

>>123832

You have the right idea, but easier said than done, and, "quit"? Ah ha, ah ha, quit the military. Isn't that the quote of the century.

>>123830
fuck that shit goddamn. air force here, unless you like working 14 hour shifts everyday dont join the airforce. yeah there are some sweet desk jobs in the air force, but its a gamble trying to get one. there is a good chance you'll end up as a maintainer regardless of what job you pick when you come in, and you'll be thinking of new and interesting ways to kill yourself from here onout

The only thing i have to say about the army is that throughout history the people who went out and got shot were the poor and the uneducated. There is no reason for anyone today to go and die in a war while not defending his country.

And i'm not american.
>> Anonymous
>>123879

Poor and uneducated? No. Not by a long shot.
The draft isn't forgiving, and it's WWII and Vietnam weren't choosy at all.

Clearly you're sheltered.
With the world's reproduction rates nowadays, how do you figure we're gonna have enough food?

So basically, we're all on defense, right? Which means nobody is attacking anyone. Awesome, so lets just throw our weapons away, and skip through sunflower fields.

>>123882
I'm not saying that. You are mistaking me for a delusioned anti war hippy. War is the nature of humans, and it will exist as long as we do. An army is a necessity.

What i'm saying is that todays world offers chances. Most people can get higher education and lead comfortable and fullfiling lives. The only people who would throw those away and go and risk their lives are uneducated sociopathic morons. It's not like you are being invaded, there is no real reason to go and get killed for some asshole ceo's who couldn't give 2 shits about you.

My mother makes 50k a year, she has only a high school diploma. I quit school and got a GED. Poor is go, Uneducated is go, the Army is for me. I'm also not the OP. It's insane that some one would want to have a job in which they have to do hard physical labor, it's insanity to want to know you're alive in your occupation. Yes, I should choose to go to a university in place of the Army, so I can go through the motions of what you fucking disgusting people call life. Living in a shit sedated state taking for granted everything I DIDN'T earn with hard work. Go back to your cubicles you pieces of shit, and claim you are living. I hope to see the best in man kind, and the worst. But probably I'll just get stuck doing faggoty paper work anyway. Let's just all kill ourselves.

I joined the military at 23, had a full time job with benefits, was making 30k starting. Not all that bad. But i still quit and joined the USAF. If you think everyone has the opportunity to be educated and everyone has all the opportunities in the world of be satisfied and feel secure, then you are either deluded, or sheltered. Probably both.

That's right, man. Why die for the CEOs when you can live your life for them, give them 50 hours a week, serving their every desire, lining their pockets with the margin of what you should be earning, and what you really do? You won't make 100k a year, you'll get a shit middle management job because you are too stupid to have any skills that would justify paying you so much. You will hang yourself with your own necktie in twenty years.

I went to college and joined the army not for patriotic reasons, not to defend freedom, but instead to spread Americas imperial influence.

Also, start running. Run for speed and run for endurance.

>>123830

Airmen still deploy. They go to augment Army units. Not all jobs will give you a rifle and stick you on a convoy, but you will see the desert. There's only a select few jobs that don't deploy, and that's because their job is already considered "wartime support."

If you are the average 4channer, you weren't born poor and the only reason you are uneducated and a general failure is due to your own laziness and stupidity.

So OP you joining up because of some strong sense of patriotic duty, or are you doing for the lulz?

If military service is such a great, character building experience, then why are combat veterans disproportionally afflicted with life-destroying mental illnesses that lead to addiction and homelessness?

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-11-07-homeless-veterans_N.htm

A staggering amount of the filthy, rambling, disease-ridden lunatics you see digging in the trash were once decorated soldiers who gave all for their country.

Kind of takes the romance out of modern warfare for me.

Non American soldier here. The army isn't worth it. The US army is currently full of retards and other undesirables. I know this first hand because I have worked with them. It is very likely you will be forced to live in Iraq for 15 months. Longer if you choose to make a career out of the army, there's also a reasonably high chance of dying and the work for an infantry soldier or marine can be very hard at times.

The army seems like a nice opportunity for a person who maybe isn't the most book smart or doesn't have the connections to get a decent job - However, only a very small percentage of soldiers actually make it to the 20 year retirement mark, and even then those people have to work very hard and deal with physical and psychological problems. The majority of soldiers will leave the army within 5 years, with no practical experience, at least a slight loss of hearing, and possibly psychological problems, and if you think being a veteran will help you than you are wrong. The truth is no one cares if you served in Iraq or not except for a bunch of hicks that can't give you a job.

Hey OP, enjoy dying in Iraq.

Wow, I know /b/ is full of idiots but I didn't expect /fit/ to be so full of faggots.
Enjoy your fail, hippies.

Doesn't anyone know that being in the Army doesn't automatically mean you're a front-line infantry grunt? I guess not, because all you hippies watch movies about the stereotypically shattered vet who is borderline psychotic because of the Army, and shitty specials on the news interviewing people who hated the Army because it wasn't like the bullshit they see in war films, or people who got kicked out because they did something stupid and want to "get back at the man".

Yes, if you're a front-line grunt, you run the high risk of getting fucked up and were probably semi-fucked up to begin with. But don't automatically say "OH UR GONNA DIE IN IRAQ" and "LOL ENJOY GETTING FUCKED OVER" to people joining the Army just because you made the false assumption that 100% of the people in the Army are crawling on the front-lines with a gun shooting people.

wow, this thread seems to have gotten off the topic of OP's workout routine...
i for one stand behind all in thew military and will probably enlist after a few years of college.
but anyway, you should start by doing 50 reps of push ups every other day and increase 15-20 reps per week. do pull ups, increase by 3 per week. run at least twice a week for 30-45 minutes. swim for an hour at least once a week. do squats and ab exercises.
