no equipment needed? Anonymous
so I just moved and I want to start working out (upper body primarily) to gain some weight and maybe not be so thin any more (not much mind you, like 15 pounds). Since my goal isn't to become some hypermuscled beast I figured I might be able to do this without shelling out massive cash for equipment or a gym membership.

Is this actually a feasible idea? If so, what types of exercises am I looking at to gain that layer of muscle (anything beyond the obvious pushups, pullups, situps, etc.)

Beastly = YEARS of hard, dedicated effort in all aspects of your life + steroids.

In order to get even an athletic physique, you will HAVE to lift weights. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of time to reduce your regimen once you've hit your target physique.

That said, you can make some progress with bodyweight exercises. Crossfit.com is a good place to start, since they seem to be built upon bodyweight exercises.

Yep I agree with the other poster, unless you're doing roids or have a genetic mutation, you ain't ever going to get "beastly". I'd recommend just getting a barbell and some plates, you'd probably only have to shell out twenty or thirty bucks if you get it from craigslist or a garage sale. Then do some military presses and power cleans, and of course squats.

It is fucking insulting to hear people talk about that like it can happen on accident. It is rather difficult work. 15 lbs of pure muscle is a lot.

And no amount of pushups is going to get you there.

You can try some static holds from gymnastics. Later you can progress to stuff like handstands which are very demanding.
