Okay /fit/izens, I'm planning on going vegetarian, and I need some starter advice.

If you guys could give me some helpful sites as to good eating habits and diet plans that won't fuck my body up, it would be great. I just need more info as to the whole process and advice to get me started.

Vegetables suck ass... they are only good as a side to a nice succulent cut of meat.

take this to /ck/ if you want advice. Here we will only give you hate

From what I understand, vegetarianism isn't eating nothing but vegetables.

Of course one can still eat soy and wheat products as well.

I don't want recipes, I want to know more about it, and how I can go about becoming a vegetarian.

I dislike the amount or hormones that are injected into the animals, and the way they're treated.

And I guess I'm gonna have to take it to /ck/ seeing as how all you guys are being faggots.

I also doesn't know what kosher is, but I assume it's clean food.

hi, fem veg here! The best thing to remember is that a lot of food has a lot of protein already in it, which a lot of people think veggies lack protein. The average American omni eats 3 to 4 times too much protein!

Another thing to remember is it's easy to eat vegetarian if you aren't eating Ameican food; almost all American dishes are BASED on meat: hotdogs, hamburgers, steak, ribs, entire chickens. Chinese, Mexican, Indian, and Italian food is all easily made vegetarian!

>>381534

kosher means nothing. All kosher means is that the animal didn't touch the ground while it was dead. Srsly, kosher animals are still factory farmed, and injected with hormones and treated horribly, living in filth.

I've considered this, but it's essentially the same thing. As one anon pointed out, it means next to nothing.

I'm a mexifag, and Mexican food is also heavily based on meat. The food my mom and pretty much any other Mexican family I've met eat mostly beef, pork, chicken and goat. Most Mexican food is horrible for you from my experience.
>> Anonymous
>>381571

Yes, it has meat in it, but seeing as you're a mexifag, you already know how to make these dishes, and easily just pull out the meat, as opposed to American dishes. How do you pull out the meat in a rib dinner?
>> Anonymous
>>381578

Good point, but you can't pull the meat out of dishes like birria or carne asada.

But that's aside the point, I'm gonna cut beef first, then in about two weeks, cut chicken and fish, as I hardly ever eat fish anyways. Is this a good plan?

for me, giving up seafood was the hardest, but since it's usually more expensive I didn't eat it as much..

My advice would be to give up the things you don't like very much, like pork and seafood, first.

Then give up things that HAVE meat in them, like ramen with meat in the seasonings, etc, to get used to what you can and cannot eat.

Then while still slowly giving up meat, try the veggie meats. Try not to think of them as a replacement for the meat they are presenting themselves as (like veggie dogs), just think of them as a different type of meat.

Then give up the rest of the meat. This could take as long as 4 weeks, or maybe even 2-3 months; depends on you.

Many veggies don't like a lot of veggie meat; personally I love almost all of them. Some taste almost exactly like the meat they are imitating, and some don't.

Also, visit here for stores that grow local and sell veggie friendly stuff: eatwellguide.org

-_- Never said that. You can be healthy meat eater, and a unhealthy veg. Depends on the person, fucktard.

>>381632

Again, never said that. It's easier to be a fat ass, basing your meals on hamburgers and hot dogs, but again, you can be a healthy meateater and an unhealthy veg, by eating chips, cheese pizza, cakes, etc.

>>381606

I hardly eat fish, and when I do it's usually out of last resort, so I pretty much stopped eating it already, I cut pork a long time ago, I've always hated that.

Beef and chicken are gonna be the hardest for me, but there are a lot of good beef substitutes. My friend also gave me a bunch of good chicken substitues, Imma go to the grocery store tomorrow and pickup a lot tofu/soy and other crap like that, see what I like the best.

I think the hardest part isn't gonna be cutting the foods, but resisting them when I see someone eating them or something.

Thanks for the advice, glad to know there's at least one sensible person here.

Also wanted to ask, is flan veggie safe? I know jello has animal bone and tissue, but is flan made the same way?
>> Anonymous
i could never go vegetarian, it's hard enough eating right with meat in all my meals
>> Anonymous
>>382452
I think it's safe if you're ovo-lacto. It sets using eggs, not gelatin. Also, get kosher gelatin if you want, it's made with agar which comes from seaweed.

You said you weren't looking for recipes, but vegweb.com is great for veg*n recipes. Don't make tofu your only source of protein- try tempeh and seitan(vital wheat gluten).

so the average american eats 400g of protein per day?
yeah right

Little known fact: the Burger King Quad Stacker is actually a vegan dish.

It's also high in fiber and suitable for low sodium diets.

People didn't evolve to eat mostly meat. Eating protein-rich lean meat is a trick to let us get away with eating energy-dense starch like bananas and tubers, and calorie-vacant but vitamin-rich vegetables. "Meat & 2 Veg" is the natural human diet, plus opportunistic eating of the rare sweet fruits and rich, fatty meats.

The problem is, we gained control over our environment, and now we are surrounded by sweets and fatty meat dishes, which are often not only cheaper and more readily available, but more calorie-dense than natural fruits and rich meats.

Now our opportunistic food targets have become our main diet, leading to overeating and... is "misnutrition" a word? I mean, you're not short of anything you need, but it's coming in awkward proportions, leading to things like diabetes.

So yeah, too much protein is bad for you, just like too much of anything is bad for you. Beyond calories (and protein is about as calorie-rich as starch), protein metabolism makes different waste product, and your body can struggle to deal with an excess of them. You should keep your protein intake in balance with your fat and starch intake.

So you're still saying... vegetarianism is bad for business, correct?
>> Anonymous
>>382704
If you're clever and disciplined about it, vegetarianism can be fine.

It is unnatural, so you need an engineered diet, but then in this unnatural environment of food availability, we all should follow an engineered diet.
