dear op,
most of these people are fools.
honey is mainly fructose. fructose does not elicit anything like the insulin response that say, glucose or sucrose (a fructose/glucose combo) does. this means you can consume large amounts of it and not impare insulin sensitivity.
problem is it does not make your body make secrete a chemical that tells you you are full either. this is the issue with high fructose corn syrup (though comparing honey to hfcs is like comparing red wine to industrial alcohol). and excess energy will be converted to fat, so it becomes a matter of how active you are.
now a lot of people go on about how 'sugar' is bad for you and shit, and then talk about other carbohydrate sources like they know what the fuck they are talking about. truth is, some people are better able to process carbohydrates than others, basically because of genetics. so while some people might do great on oatmeal, others, like myself, don't. so i stick to fruits and vegetables as my carbohydrate sources. what's more, eating a whole lot of oatmeal is still going to make you fucking fat if you're not active. breads and grains are not good for you by virtue of magic. and most people eat too many carbohydrates anyway.
hey fatty, chugging that loaf of rye bread is still a gonna make you fat.
so in short, not all carbohydrate sources are created equal, and some are better for some people than others. eating too much will still make you fat. jews did 9/11.
