I have to poke some metal into my lip for a day (say, a safety pin), and I'm curious about sterilization.

I know you can heat it up, and put it in, which would make it sterile, cauterize the wound, and hurt like a motherfucker.

Then I thought, "What about boiling in water". Similar effects, right? Maybe less pain.

Also, I thought about leaving it in alcohol or witchhazel, or something of the sort.

Then, and this is why I made this thread, what if I boiled it in the aforementioned chemicals?

What might happen? Would it be toxic? Would it even make it that much more sterile?

leave it in rubbing alcohol

don't do it yourself. Go get your lip pierced by a professional, and then take out the piercing once you don't need it anymore. It'll heal over on its own, and what you're talking about sounds like it's just going to be painful and will leave a scar.

The only way to fully sterilize stuff like at home requires a pressure cooker. Alcohol and boiling do not cut it.
