Is it possible to build any muscle mass from swimming? I've been fairly skinny/weak all my life with (stick-arms, etc) and have been wanting to change that but I don't really enjoy going to the gym so I find it hard to motivate myself to go at all.

I have always enjoyed swimming and now that it's getting warm I want to start again.

Look at swimmers, do they have muscles?

you can, but it won't be huge ripped slabs of muscle

Swimming I think is the best cardio workout you can give your body.

However you dont build much muscle from cardio work outs. You do cardio in order to lose weight. Of course I could be wrong, but I am almost positive I'm not.

endurance exercise is able to build muscle... just not a ton...

You can make swimming more anaerobic than aerobic if you sprint more than go for distance, but you won't see the same results as you would with squatz.

swimming is the greatest cardio, do it regardless of wether or not it will build you muscles

I was under the impression that most of it is gained through lifting weights, not from swimming itself.

I'm not looking to become ripped. I just want to actually look my age and have some visible muscle period, although it's starting to sound like I should just give in and start lifting weights. pic related

every extra move you make, you build muscles.

but swimming is not the best option for losing weight. first off all, swimmers have a large amount of fat stored in their body. it's a natural reaction of your body to being underwater all the time. swimming is a great exercise when you are not a pro swimmer, tbh.

OP:
good for your back, shoulders and no risk of getting hurt . but if you're a skinny ass fag, swimming can only be an addition, especially if you're too old to go pro. Stick with weight lifting/running.

Swimmers have the sexiest bodies, btw.

god jesus raptor fucking christ, how many of you persist in spreading the myth that swimming causes your body to retain fat. how many serious swimmers do you know of that have EXCESS FAT stored on their bodies? any fat on a swimmer's body is due to an imperfect diet, since swimmers eat whatever whenever, and when you're a teen, your diet isn't often the most healthy

consider the related photos or elite swimmers, i.e. those that swim often. I don't see excess fat, do you?

No, this is not true, every time you move, your muscle tears a little bit.

Swimming is really low impact, so it doesn't tear much muscle, therefore you wont get jacked swimming. What it does do is make you healthy, because being in the water is good for you, and help you lose fat because it is hard exercise, and easy on your joints because it is low-impact.
