I'm going to go into the Marines in 2 months. I'm 5'9' 195 and have 9% bf. I took the IST last week and got a near perfect score. Basically, I'm in great shape. I'm worried about it because I seriously doubt I'll be able to chow down Eggs, Fish, and Whey in boot camp like I am now. I also seen a few videos that show the kind of shit you eat there and among the foodstuffs I saw jello and cookies and all that pig disgusting shit. I know its impossible to go through boot camp without losing weight but I'm wondering how I should minimize the muscle and strength loss when I'm there. Can anyone here on /fit/ that knows what they're talking about help me out?

When you're at boot camp your diet is going to be the least of your problems.

Chill dood, even if you drop some muscle at boot you'll have plenty of time to gain it back afterward. If you don't want the jello and shit then don't eat it, there is more than crap food there. And I've never been to a DFAC that had straight weight lifter food available (except for the Air Force one at Ramstein but they have fucking everything you can imagine) so get used to eating "good enough" and train more. Once you get out of school and to your duty station you can resume your strict diet.

OP you brag about getting a perfect IST? The test to see if you can even stay in bootcamp? Boot camp isn't THAT horrible. The organized PT will be a joke if you can do pushups, situps, pullups, and run but bootcamp nowadays isn't about PT. Punishments are different, quarter decking and platoon fuck sessions vary from drill instructor to drill instructor. A lot of drill instructors allow your parents to send shit for your platoon like protein bars and whey and shit but sometimes they just take the shit or they lock it up and you never see it. They want you to succeed because it makes them look good, too. You're going to lose weight. If you didn't want to lose it you shouldn't have been a faggot body builder. The big ones fallout first on humps and I just keep on a choomin past them laughin at their curlz for gurlz attitude. You won't have time in the beginning to eat for more than a few minutes. I have a muscle filled jaw because of my days decimating apples at chow (don't get apples until later when you actually have time). Just be smart in the chowline and get the stuff with protein that you can eat fast. The food is actually really good. Always drink dumbass amounts of water and if you're not third battalion then don't worry about any of this because you will be eating ice cream for like two hours chillin'. Anyways, bootcamp isn't a good gauge of the PT you will be experiencing, MCT was a bit better had more interesting PT and some trail runs, but your MOS school could have you running up to ten miles. So I hope that great IST score carries you into that, hah.

Everyone I knew who went through bootcamp and was already in great shape beforehand, lost their condition partially. There is no way to stop it, I'd suggest bulking up beforehand as much as possible, so when you lose weight (and you will) you will be closer to your real target weight anyhow. Boot camp isnt about getting you into shape, its about getting you mentally into shape.

Yup. Stress, increased activity, and health all destroy whatever mass you have. Everyone except a few lean 150-160's lost like 15-30 pounds. Big guys had the most to lose and guess what; YOUR NUMBERS GO DOWN WITH IT. Because most big guys base their pullups on their muscle size and don't train their CNS they end up losing pullups (happened to a fuckton of people). Not only that but the change in climate made people lose pullups, too. The few guys who didn't lose much weight kept cool heads, drank water, were used to the high activity level, and did what they could about getting sick (without going to sickbay). You should go ahead and start doing calisthenics in mass numbers and mix it with running. Wear boots and you will add to the effect. I would tell you to get FAT quick but unfortunately they changed the weight standards to go to boot. Fat guys almost always succeed if their heart is in it because the body uses fat as it's emergency fuel. So while I was starving with my good body fat percentage they will chuggin along like "HAH ENJOY YOUR ABS" and while I was running along looking like uganda kid.
