Diet tips? Anonymous
/fit/,

I've been lifting for a little over a year now, and I've made significant progress. I've bulked up, put on 50+ lbs, and I'm becoming strong as hell.

I'm tall (6'3), and I'm what you'd call "lean". However, a good chunk of my mass is bothersome body fat that I just can't seem to shake. It's in the typical annoying places - love handles, mid-back. This makes my physique look.. well, silly.

I don't think my problem lies in lack of exercise - I go to the gym 3-6 days per week (5 average), and I walk 1.5 miles to and from work every day. Hence, I think that it's my diet.

Any tips?

OP here,

A little bit about my diet:

Mornings: Typically eggs, toast, english muffins, or a Philadelphia-style pretzel (soft pretzel). Small servings (1-2 eggs, 1 muffin, etc.)

Lunch: Varies wildly; usually something light - rice, fruit salad, but can sometimes be something heavy like a burger.

Dinner: Dinner is a bit weird. I get home from work/gym at about 6-6:30pm. At this time, I have a banana or two and a protein shake. I typically eat actual dinner around 7:30-8, and is typically chicken or pasta.

Before bed (10pm): I generally have a bowl of yogurt and granola.

If I had to guess, I'd say something like 10-15 lbs of it.

I was also pretty underweight when I started lifting, so it wasn't that hard to pack it on.

50 pounds a year is only 1 pound a week of sustained muscle growth.

Not unusual though of course i highly fucking doubt you could maintain that over any longer really.

You did not gain 35-40 lbs of muscle in a year Hercules. the most you could hope for without steroids is around 24 lbs of muscle *if* you ate perfectly and had the most amazing genetics for muscle gain you could get. the body is just incapable of putting on that much muscle that quickly.

ITT: you're full of shit, you're not eating anywhere near enough to gain 50lbs, so you're bullshitting fit about how much you eat and what you eat. what you describe is probably < 1500 calories a day which is way under maintenance for someone 6'3 unless you're 85 pounds.

what he said. you seriously are not eating enough for me to buy that you put on a significant amount of muscle, or even fat for that matter.

I began in October of 2006, so a year and five months to be precise. When I started, I weighed in at ~145. As of this afternoon, I weighed in at 193.

The diet I described is the diet I currently maintain as I am trying to burn off my fat (Imagine that, I've already tried to alter my diet!)

The diet I maintained when I was trying to "bulk up" was ~3700 calories per day. At that point, I didn't care what I was gaining just as long as I was gaining weight. As a result, I gained a bunch of fat that I am now trying to lose. As I said, the 10-15 lb estimate was a guess. Could be more than that.

Since you obviously think that you know what you're talking about, do you have anything constructive to add?
