Is it good to do squats and leg press in the same workout?
Also what is a good weight to start doing deadlifts? I'm 160 lbs.
>> Anonymous
well what can you squat, bench etc.? Can't just throw numbers out there.
>> Anonymous
always start with the bar for technique then steadily increase weight, 5-10#

thank you, I'll do that.

Funny enought it was my leg day tonight, ( If that makes sence)

I squat 5x5
then deadlift 5x5
Legpress 12 x 3
Calf extension 24 x 3

Its a cracker work out i find it hard to walk after.

HGH FOR THE FUCKING WIN

Well leg press is more quad intensive than squat is (or should be, unless your squat form blows).

It depends on how you feel, basically.

Wut r u tlkin bout mizter?

No srsly, what are you on? This Routine has worked for me so well it's unreal.

I believe he is referring to your comment about human growth hormone. Either you were implying you are taking HGH to increase your performance, which in case he is saying your 'gains' will disappear when you stop, or you were referring to tearing large muscle groups may help release HGH and therefor help your workouts.

So should Deadlfting be done when I work my back or my legs? Because I do them on different days.

I do them on a leg day, because it is still very intense on your lower body.

Yes there is some pressure on your lower back, but that shouldn't be the main focus of the lift

train it on both days, different versions, different rep schemes, etc.

back day=rack lockouts, leg day=snatch grip deads from a podium.

there are NO rules. every1 here has a hard on for rippetoe and his ABSOLUTES

top IPF finnish powerlifters deadlift 8x a week.

olympic lifters are pulling some 16x a week

....just dont train past technical failure

And then there are guys like matt kroc, who maybe deadlift once and month, and still pull 850 a around 240 pounds.

You have to find what works for you. If you're getting gains from deadlifting 8 times a week, then by all means do it

wheezy....come on man, you can't pull up Kroc in a discussion like this

its like bringing up Hitler in any social/political/economic arguement to make a point...

motor learning (muscle recruitment+coordination) is a FUNCTION of practice

practice is best if frequent and fresh (ie. all olympic athletes and their practice regimines)

deadlift can be a different beast...if pulled to max, and if good enough.

obviously by the nature of OPs question, he certainly isnt in the category of "good enough"
i am over 1.75 weeks out from last strongman deadlift session (conventional, 18", max reps 455) and my lumbars are still completely fucked for any pulling.

Yeah, I know he does a lot of fuck up shit.

(wooo kroc pullups! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8874JYBIODQ&feature=related)
But it does work for him. He's still really strong. Would it work for everyone? Most likely not. The idea is that you have to find what works for you.

I deadlift 3-4 times per month, mostly because I think the squat is more beneficial for me at this point. I'm still getting results, so right now, this works for me

I usually only deadlift every second week

if im prepping for comp, and truly want my lift to be my actual 1rm, i wont pull for at least 3 weeks. but when true 1rm expression d/n matter...i pull much more often, and contrary to you, at this point, DL is doing more 'good' than squats, hence the relative shift. performance went up and total fatigue went down when i got that bar off my back.

different strokes....
