My roommate has a a dent in his chest similar to the one in this pic. When he came back from the bathroom I saw it and asked about it, he said its pretty common and he was born with it.

Then I asked him if he ever ate cereal out of it.

He got pissed. Oh well, anyway I cant imagine its that common. Anyone in /fit/ got one?

P.S. Id eat cereal out of mine if I had one.

I got a small dent in my chest, it's not as severe as the one in the pic though.

I never tried eating cereal out of it, and I doubt I can.

Yeah I got it, it's pretty bad. I think when I was a kid I ate cereal out of it too, haha

Two serious questions though.

How would someone perform CPR on someone with this condition?

How would this condition affect how your chest muscles grow, or would it make the condition worse, etc

I have one just slightly worse than that one in OP's picture, and I have to tell you, it sucks. I have reduced lung capacity and occasional pain, plus it has caused a scoliosis in my spine and it's messing up my lower back now. I'd be willing to have them break every one of my ribs to make it normal, but the doctors I spoke with wouldn't hear of it. Screw them. It's ugly, and I admit that I might want to be vain. Also it doesn't affect chest muscles beyond making you look funky as they develop and CPR is the same, the ribs still compress.

I see, thanks. I hope my ribs don't fuck up my spine/back ):

When I was 15 (three years ago) I had a painful and complicated surgery to fix this, as my case was pretty bad. Affected my breatheing, heart rate, and level of physical activity. They basically put a metal bar in through my ribs and popped my sternum out. They took the bar out in August. Doesn't feel any different now that it's out. But ever since the surgery, I've been happier with the way it looks.

I had that too, the bars come out next year.

Doesn't everyone have a little dent in the centre of their chest? I thought it was normal.

:D

I have it too. Been thinking about fixing it, but it doesn't really bother me that much. As for OP: I haven't eaten cereal out of it yet (I don't like cereal, and I'd have to clean up afterwards), but I can drink from it with a straw.

That's the question that must be asked of somebody with this condition. It's come up in other threads before.

Hmm his might be a pretty bad case, but that is actually pretty common. Its from the end of the best bone bending inwards. And I think its as common as 1 out 4 people.

Not known to cause any health issues...but it does look funny.

Couple friends had them. One is/was really bad and had to get surgery so his organs didn't get crushed by his ribcage. Other one is fine and it's funny.

Holy shit, I thought this was a lot rarer. I saw a guy just last weekend that had the same shit. Fucking weird.

Have it too, pretty annoying. Other than looking like I have a crater in my chest it doesn't affect me much.

god, i've never seen someone with that. well, better than having manboobs.
