/fit/ - All my life I've been a coffee drinker (well, at least since I was 14, I'm 18 now.) I've recently kicked the habit (cold-turkeying a caffeine addiction is hell). Now I have teeth that are stained yellow from a life of drinking coffee. How can I go about whitening my teeth without damaging or weakening them?

Pic related, that's basically the complexion of my teeth and what I want them to look like.

(yes, I drank 4 cups of coffee a day, and my school had coke machines)

Go to the drug store, get a 20% solution of hydrogen peroxide hair bleach (this is exactly what cosmetic dentists use to whiten teeth). Apply some to the end of a q-tip, wipe the q-tip on your teeth, wait a few minutes, rinse your mouth out, and tada - you have white teeth and you saved yourself a few hundred dollars.

seriously, just use those whitening products from walgreens or whatever. don't do something stupid like apply them 3x a day, and they won't weaken your teeth any more than drinking coffee daily will.

the strips aren't as harsh as the paint on/gel types, but they take more time to work. look at the active ingredient, i believe the usual concentration is 10-30%. i suggest 15-20%.. the higher concentrations can be irritating for your gums. if you're doing any damage to your teeth, you'll notice tenderness or redness in your gums first.

also, always swish with water after drinking soda or coffee, and wait at least half an hour after drinking anything acidic before brushing your teeth.

Save up $500, go to the dentist, get movie-star teeth.

Done.

Coffee isn't bad you know

If you use tooth paste your teeth should not be white, fluorides stain yellow. A good, healthy colour would be a 40/60 of top and bottom in your pic.

I got zoom whitening, it was $450 but didn't get movie star results. All it is is four 15 minute applications of bleach and a light shined on it, 3rd application was hurting, shooting pain every now and then, by the 4th application the pain was intense, I didn't make it all the way through the 4th one. Dentist said most people don't. I'd recommend it, got about 4 or 5 shades lighter. I didn't have butter yellow pooptooth to begin with though, you might have more dramatic results.
