Fish Oil Anonymous
/fit/:

Can someone explain to me the benefits of taking fish oil? It seems like a modern day snake oil -- no pun intended.
>> Anonymous

How is Krill Oil better than Fish Oil? Like how does it differ in anyway?

Alright, I've had enough of this crap right here.

DONT EAT MEAT IT MAKES YOU FATS
DONT EAT FISH ITS MEAT AND CONTAINS MERCURY!!!
OMG!

Get a clue, we're human beings and we're designed to eat meat, I lost over 200 fucking pounds eating meat and I'm on the way to my ideal body still eating fish and meat. You're gonna tell me that fish oils bad now? Blow it out your ass.
>> Anonymous
fish oils are good, but not when pressed like olive oil from cheap fish not fit for consumption

eat salmon

Mercury, no matter what dose, is bad for you. Evar hear how lead over long periods can damage you? Same thing with mercury.
>> Anonymous
why do you think they say to eat only 1-2 cans of tuna a week max?
>> Anonymous
>>64810

Yes. But we weren't designed to eat meat containing mercury. Fish oil is good for a lot of things. Off the top of my head its good for skin. Also In a study, Primary School students taking copious amounts of the stuff were shown to retain more information, concentrate harder and do better in school. But then it was just one study and I'm not familiar with the methodology.

Oh god, which to choose:

Fish, Krill, Flax, Salmon, Tuna, OLIVE?

Nature Made, specifically, uses anchovies and sardines. Not from the top of the food chain. Less mercury nonsense, if at all.

Honestly though, I am looking to buy some sort of omega-3 supplement and am trying to decide which kind to buy.

Flaxseed Oil is still better than fish oil. Flaxseed has omega-3s (alpha-linolenic acid), omega-6s (linoleic acid) and omega-9s (oleic acid).

the American Food and Drug Administration can blow it. Their food pyramid is joke,
-says nothing about healthy fats vs. bad fats
-says nothing about refined carbohydrates and sugars versus whole intact pasta/flour.
-says nothing about how refined sugars is associated with diabetes...
-I can't eat that much grain based products.
-And I heard diary cow milk got on there because of legislation, not health sciences.

Their interests are not the same as ours.

>>64819
All of them. Vary them I guess.

sry to break it to you, but everyone gets old and feeble even if they take this shit

living to 70 compared to living to 80 isn't that big a deal cause all you will be doing is crapping your pants, being beat by nursing home workers, and being confused
>> Anonymous
so you are telling me that taking this will make me live longer than 50 with increased quality of life?

proof you can be fit, independent, at least at 72. you don't just suddenly turn invalid. you have to work harder at that age, but don't just flat out give up. i'm all for more short interviews like this for old dudes working out.

IMO, veggies should be at the bottom. Fruits and whole grains/oatmeal/etc should be a step above that. Meats should be above that, and dairy should be above meats. There should also be a side note saying to avoid trans fats, limit saturated fats, and to avoid HFCS.

RESEARCH. This is not true at all. The oil is extracted through processes which do not transfer the mercury from the fish. Just to be sure, you can look up the results from tests that people have run.

"The levels of mercury in the 5 different brands of fish oil ranged from nondetectable (<6 ?g/L) to negligible (10–12 ?g/L). The mercury content of fish oil was similar to the basal concentration normally found in human blood."
>> Anonymous
>>65138

I hope its not undetectable in the same way that its "undetectable" in american groundwater.
>> Anonymous
Fish oils contain a much smaller percentage of mercury than eating all of the fish to get the benefits of the oil would.

That being said there are some brands that are more pure than others. Look these things up and find a brand in your area.

Me, I started taking fish oil for purely cosmetic reasons, I wanted clearer skin. It also made my hair a little stronger and I lost a small amount of weight. It did nothing for my nails, however.

And it's not something I can measure, but it's supposed to be good for your heart.

We used to get a larger amount of Omega-3s from the meats we eat, but here in the US where cows don't eat grass anymore, that's no longer true.

The fats that you get from an animal source are going to be different than the flax seed oil. When I run out of my fish oil and switch to my flax seed (which I keep a bottle of for such reasons) I find it doesn't work as well on my skin.
