Throat Lift Anonymous
What kind of exercise would be ideal to give me the strength to pick someone up by their throat, one armed?

I'd assume it'd target the bicep and back and maybe the triceps.

Or will the main lifting exercises described in stronglifts eventually bring me to this level?

Picking someone up with one hand would require A LOT of overall strength, so yeah, a general strength training program is what you want.

You'll probably want to specialize in overhead pressing after about a year.

well you want to start off with light weights so use babies. Grab a 2 year old and start doing 5x5. Increase your weight every session by one year so by your fifth session you should be lifting a 7 year old.

ITT: People offering inane suggestions for an idea that would never work.

Protip: You won't be able to do a Throat Lift to anyone who isn't the size of a child.

The best way to gain the strength to do this type of thing though would be to, well, throat lift people who are willing to be throat lifted.

Try this. Set a 125lb dumbbell on a box or something that is about as tall as a person if you were going to grab them by the throat. Try lifting that straight up with your arm extended.

Couldn't do it?

Try it with a 60lb dumbbell.

Oh sorry.. couldn't do it?

Try a 25. Work your way up from there. Enjoy throat lifting 25lb toddlers in the meantime.

By the way, throat lifting would be almost a total body lift. You WILL use your legs to do something like that. So train everything.

but this is something KBs/KB training style are useful for, except angle of the hand is off.

note when a 'properly trained' KB guy is doing OHPs, notice how they 'rack' the KB not just @ the shoulder, but with their triceps/elbow pressed firmly against the side of the body (upper hips, lats) as a platform. they then DRIVE out of this position to full extension over head.

to literally lift someone by the throat, you will need to minimize your weakest link, which is when you arm is extended parallel to the ground, by bracing it against your side and then using leg drive/hip extension

this is likely unclear, but you are also a faggot for this

no really. if there's one specific movement you want to get good at, nothing beats repeating that movement over and over again. no combination of individual muscle group exercises will target the appropriate muscles with the same relative emphasis (and therefore efficiency).

if you want to be able to run fast, the best exercise is running. if you want to be able to throw a solid punch, the best exercise is punching. same here.

lifters in the lighter classes (181, for ex) on average at national level competition ( a study was done on all there) come in @ <7%bf and have over 600lb squats.
same for all classes below 181, 198, 220, 242, (then it gets more bf% 12-15) until SHW, which is still <25, and no different from the WSM and IFSA guys (zavickus any one? micha kolvelev?)

but of course, 'fitness' is only about being 'not fat', so anaeroxics on their death beds are fitter than almost every1 in the world.

absolutely not. they are about 10% of PLs, but, like most sports (boxing) or bodybuilding (people only care about HEAVY WEIGHT divisions). the bigger classes are MUCH more 'popular' and sell more. also. the freak effect. people want to see 1200lb squats and 1000DLs.

here is a lifter who has totaled elite from 220 to 275 (and 308?)

here he is @ 242. as you can imagine, he is even leaner for 220 (5%) and fatter for 275 (still under 15%)

this is relatively standard for national level comp. see Matt K. who has got his conditioning dialed in even tighter than chuck and only competes (now) in 1 division. he comes in sub 5%, literally bodybuilder stage ready.
