Hello, /fit/. I have a question for you, as Anonymous has the answer to every problem in my life -- sort of like yahoo answers, only not made of fail.

Anyway, I run several miles almost every day. I have heard that cardio like that is not good for building mass. However, if I were to attach weights to myself (50 lb vest, etc), would that have any sort of positive effect in muscle growth?

Also -- what the hell good does running do, other than burn calories and improve heart function?

how about pick up a barbell some time in your lift you pussy

running really long distances can eat away at your muscles and stop you from gaining muscle mass. so putting on weights while running won't really do much.

just make sure you eat a lot of protein, possibly try some HIIT.

True. Running provides fair resistance, but not so much that your lower body muscles will develop massively. They get constantly toned and burn a lot of calories, but they don't grow very much from running alone.

No. It would just throw off your balance and likely end up damaging your back.

That's pretty much what it does. It strengthens your cardiovascular system and heavily uses your lower body. You stay in an aerobic state for a long period of time, work large muscle groups, and increase how much oxygen is being delivered to your body, thusly burning calories rather efficiently.

If you want bigger muscles, pick up heavy objects until you can't pick them up any more.
