I am really confused about calorie deficits.

OK, when you calculate your daily caloric needs, you always multiply by your activity factor, ie take into account the exercise that you do.

Doesn't that mean that the exercise you're doing isn't counting towards your daily deficit, and that the defecit is just whatever fewer calories you're eating? If not, what's the point of multiplying by an activity factor if your exercise calories are counting for the deficit?
Should the defecit just be based off of how much fewer calories you're eating, or is it even more exercise in ADDITION to what you're doing regularly for your activity level?

calculating activity factor gives you your TDEE. to lose weight you need to subtract from that. so keep doing your exercise but eat less then your TDEE

You are making it way to complicated. You make kitty facepalm into the floor (Cause they don't have Palms, only Paws).

your daily caloric needs is what you need to eat to maintain your weight. eat less of that (about 20%) while continuing the same activities

Eat 20%, as in 1/5th? Or reduce by 20% to 4/5ths?

What's the point of exercising a lot, then? I mean, if I run 7 days a week for 30 minutes, all it means is that my TDEE has a different activity factor. Or I could just run 2 times a week and all it would mean is that I eat less. Why exercise a lot, then? What's the benefit if apparently it doesn't mean anything in terms of calories?

I was curious about this before also. It's because just living only takes some portion of energy from fat, and some from carbs. Say regularly, your body uses fat for 10% of its energy needs, and 90% for carbs. When you exercise, that ratio goes higher, and you can use up to 40% purely from fat, 60% from carbs. At the end of the day, it really adds up, and exercise makes fat loss much more effective/quicker.

I mean, it doesn't make you pull more from fat through the day, just more from fat from that specific bout of exercise.

Calculating calorie needs is retarded.

Everyone is different. My BMR is lower than most people's while many people have a higher BMR than others.

Just eat at maintenance. When you figure out how much that is, start eating less than that.

It's not rocket science, and trying to make it science isn't going to work.

4/5ths

you wouldnt purposely exercise more unless you have a physical job that makes you, training for sport, or simply want to. calculating TDEE is a way to show you how much you need to eat to keep your weight. eating less than TDEE is how you lose weight

You could just wear a HR monitor 24/7 that tracks your calories. It wont be spot on, but it'll give you a good idea.

Or wear it on days you do certain exercises, and find out how it affects your metabolism, etc.

What I'm doing.

the guy is right, champ. you cant calculate your needs from a website, a calculator, or a formula. maybe at best you get a rough approximation.

you can calculate your needs based on how much you eat and whether you gain weight. metabolism is never a cut and dry exact science.

the op is way way way way way overthinking and is doomed to failure with this kind of bizarre method.
