Buddhism is about monasticism. Monastaries attract bandits. MA helps defend the monastary against bandits. Asian Buddhism discourages "recruiting". They're busy buidling latrines and schools, and trying to teach villages to wash their hands before eating and after shitting. They're busy. Say "I want to be a buddhist monk!" and they'll ignore you, or talk you out of it or just refuse. They'll say stuff like "It's not for you." or "You should go to a Christian church." Western fascination with Asian culture does not impress them.
American Buddhism is largely New Age, done to attract students and customers. To make money. That is what you're seeing.
Buddhism is about logic, cause-and-effect, and the truth. Whatever is true, that's Buddhism. If God spoke to a Buddhist, he wouldn't say "You can't exist!" but rather "Who are you? What are you? What do you want from me?" and try to learn from it.
During the communist invasion of Tibet, a monk being executed by Chinese soldiers cried out "Heaven forgive them, for they know not what they do!"
Do you remember what Saint Stephen cried out when he was martyred in the New Testament?
