Pushups Anonymous
I can't do a single pushup, /fit/.

Even trying to do one owns me. So, other than losing weight, what's the best way to build myself up to be a pushup machine? Should I start benchpressing or start with some alternative pushup style exercises like wall pushups or something and slowly start putting in regular pushups?

Female pushups, knees on the ground is the obvious answer.

If you have the ability to benchpress, why would you want to do pushups?

However, you can elevate your torso to make a pushup easier (wall pushups), then as you get stronger decrease the angle. This works in the reverse, as well, by raising your legs you can make the pushup harder.

alternating superman exercise worked well for me
as did doing bridges

Bench press. Make sure you do a full range of motion and bring the bar to your chest, otherwise you won't be able to get the muscle built for the initial push.

If you have almost no strength do exercises that train a whole bunch of muscles. And you shouldn't train only the pushup muscles, ad biceps and upper back exercises too.

Why the fuck do you care how many faggot pushups you can do? Just lift weights.

Biceps have nothing to do with a bench press or pushup. You mean triceps.

Without equipment, or enough strength to do a push up, there's really not much you can do to strengthen your upper back or triceps.

There's some clarity for you

Upon re-reading, I got that one. Either way, the fact remains. If you can't do a push up, you probably can't do shit to strengthen your upper back in terms of calisthenics.

OP here.

Thanks for the advice all. Guess I'm going to focus on strength training *and* progressively less 'girly' pushups.

though most of the exercises are probably to difficult if you can't do pushups

i believe the best way to become a pushup machine is to do pushups

you know, you'd be surprised how that doesn't work all that well. about maybe a little more than a year ago now i started doing pushups daily, and i could do maybe 15 when i started in one set? anyway, after about 10 months or so i got to the point that i could do 45-50 a set, and it hasn't gone up since.

i don't do very much weight training at all, i mainly focus on cardio. i guess i do pushups, burpees, crunches, and bicep curls, but that's really about all that i could consider strength related.

maybe i'm just doin it wrong, who knows.
