/fit/ can you tell me if cycling is a good way of losing weight. I've been told by a few people it wont help at all and I am just going to end up with massive thighs. Is this true or don't they don't what they are talking about?I usually try and go full speed when ever I can instead of going at a leisurely pace.
Using muscles baiscally nets weight loss. So i'd say go for it. It's fun.
>>111758Will I still be burning fat off from stomach and upper body ?I'm sorry for the really idiotic questions. I've always kinda avoided exercise and not I'm trying to put things righ.
>>111759>fat off from stomachIf I see shit like this one more time. pic related.
>>111762Would you prefer if it I said abdominal fat or is it just that every single post says the same thing.Sorry if it's a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a repost of a...
>>111765What you call it does not enter into it!You CANNOT spot reduce fat you moron.
Big thighs or crippled knees. The choice is yours.
>>111773why crippled knees ?
>>111775because the only other choice is running and that will cripple you in old age.if you don't care about old age, you might as well just get surgery and start popping roids.
>>111780Ohis there no balance so I don't end up looking like a freak or disabled
>>111782Here's a hint: the people who bike with massive thighs either trained their legs for that, or they're just fat.
I've been walking every morning (5-6 miles) for the past year. My goal was to start running, but I opted to start bicycling instead. Now I walk/ride on different days.I had hit something of a plateau on my weight loss- the cycling pushed me back and I'm losing weight again.
Unless you are grinding uphills every day you won't get giant legs.If you prefer low gears instead of spinning your legs will get bigger, but not ugly. Just hard and sexy.
>>111787What do you mean by instead of spinning ?
Lmao, you won't get massive thighs. Trust me, it doesn't happen. You will develop muscle, but it won't be OMFG HUGE or some shit.
>>111751you will lose weight, you will get fit and be really healthy. cyclists with hueg legs are sprinters and lift crazy amounts of weight to get them.spend time in the saddle, build up your speed and do most of your training rides on hills (you will eat up your leisure rides for breakfast then)Most importantly once you get into it and want to stick at it, GET A GOOD BIKE it will be the best thing you ever spent money on
I lost 30 pounds in 3 months just by biking to work instead of driving(about 10 miles each way)
I'm an avid cyclist.I just read an article on proportion. I have 16.5" calves and 12 inch biceps. :(
ITT: Hippies.
>>111972quoted for truth.cycling will tone and shape your legs, not make the bulky, even pro cyclists, event he sprinters on pro tours, have well-defined legs that maybe be noticeably larger than average, but by no means unsightly
all the cyclists i know have good legs, all the runners i know look like fucking pears
Did 2000 kms last year doing some serious mountain biking (downhill, dirt jumps included but not relevant for serious working out) and well i ended the year having a really built up lower and upper back, really built up arms throughout all their length and really built up (probably most of all) thighs and buttocks and lower section of abs. Calves didn't show so much coz their shape is genetically related to your ancestors and mine all have awfully shaped calves but they were really worked out like rock solid. All this muscle I gained was very toned especially in the thighs, plus my stamina from average asthmatic went to 20% over average normal people..This year back down again do to work and zero cycling. I also ate healthy stuff but in humongous quantities without getting fat since you burn at least 500 cals. per 50 km ride if you dont ride like a granny and your leg muscles are the largest ones you have that consume the most amount of energy when built up so..thats my two cents
>>111787grinding up hills is all aout power to weight so large thighs will be more of a hinderence. pros who specialize on hill climbings are usually the smallest cyclist. like i said earlier its the sprinters who have large thighs and they get those by lifting weights
>>112063Are there any complimentary exerrcises that I should do that will help build up muscles that cycling along will miss ?
>>112134squatz?
>>112134once a week upper body workout, bench-press, dumbell curls, bent rows or whatever takes your fancy.also SPIN THE PEDALS!!
