looks like patella, very common, just let it heal. See the doctor. Biking is good for knees, however the saddle has to be correctly positioned (not too low and not too high - duh), furthermore it if it's strenuous (too long, up the hill etc) it is bad for knees. Just let it heal. Not sure what you mean by pop. Crepitus is normal but popping sounds may suggest meniscus issues. You don't want to have meniscus issues. If the sound is more like crunching, it's crepitus, "normal" for all patellar issues.
