Diet? NotSoFit
Hey /fit/.

So, I'm 22, I've moved out, I've got a great job, a good place to live and everything is flowing smoothly. Basically life is coming together enough for me to address my health situation without distraction.

I'm 230 lbs, 5'8". I'm strong, and muscly -- my legs are my favorite part of me, as they are really well defined and lean. My arms are meh, but I want them bigger and more solid. I carry all my weight around my middle, which I know is bad, as it's a signal for poor cardiac health. Like I said: strength-wise, I'm good, but I need better cardio. Badly. I'm a terrible runner, but I like cycling.

I'm mostly focused on weight loss, not so much body sculpting right now. I've been looking at going on the South Beach Diet, as I've seen good results in people I know.

Does /fit/ know any reasons why I should/should not go for this diet?

south beach is a version of the atkins diet. the difference: atkins is hard on your kidneys and liver, and almost all the weight is lost in the 1st 2 weeks, after that you're just damaging your body. sb is for the long haul. you can stay on the sb diet as long as you can stand it.

sb is aimed at old women and office workers, sedentary people who want to eat healthy and keep off the blubber. It has carbs myopia, i.e. sb blames everything on too much carbs. the body is just not that simple.

you're young and sound like you're in good shape. don't torture yourself for nothing and eat like an old woman.

I think you're missing the point. I'm wanting to find something that's going to be beneficent to my cardiac health, and I think Adkins is somewhat counter-intuitive. Plus I've seen so many people drop atkins and rebound hard.

I've heard good things about SBD because it stages you out of the initial diet and into one that you can keep up for the rest of your life, bouncing between stages as you see fit for maintainance.

I fucked around with NUTRISYSTEM for a while, but it was fucking weak...

Sure I lost 30 pounds, but I think I was going calorie deficient on the 1500 MINIMUM for living, so I stopped the shit...

and NO I haven't rebounded back, cuz I'm fly like that.
