sup /fit/,

Used to work out regularly for about a year then I had to take about a 6 month break due to traveling and other dumbass shit. Pissed me off. Anyway, I just started working out again on Monday and went through my usual chest routine which, ofcourse, wasn't as high on weights as I used to be able to do, but that's understandable and fine.

what sucks is that I can barely move my fucking arms without my chest and triceps fucking KILLING me. I dont ever remember them hurting this bad while I worked out previously. I remember reading that it takes atleast 48 hours for a muscle group to heal itself from a workout and its been about that time but they're killin me man! I dont even want to think about hitting the gym again till these muscles aren't sore anymore.

any suggestions? dealing with sore muscles, taking it easier my first time back? Meanwhile I've been eating like a beast so atleast thats a bonus...

Work through the soreness, if you keep waiting until the soreness is gone until you lift again, you'll probably only hit the gym 2 times in a month. However, work with lighter weights while you're sore and wait until the stiffness subsides, then get back to lifting heavily.

Wait for 48 hours, then do as you normally would do, but go a little easier on the weights.

If it heals after 48 hours, you can lift after 48 hours, its just about being stubborn.

Worst idea ever.

OP probably overtrained, let the muscles rest. If your muscles are still sore it means they haven't healed yet, that's all there is to it. If it lasts for more than a week you have an injury and should consider checking with a professional.

In 48 hours after your muscles stop hurting try again but don't do it as hard as you were. Because you've been out of it for so long you can't go straight back into the routine you used to do and have to lighten it up a bit first.

Start lower with what you're able to, then slowly work harder or put on more weights or whatever you do until you get back to your former regime.

I lol'd at old Arnold and young Arnold. I think I've seen it before, it was before he went on to star in T3. His body already had the muscular foundation, he just continued working out 2 hours a day and he returned to a muscular physique for the movie.

you're not the same as you we're before. you've got to work up to that level again. muscles have a "memory" though, the first time it you say 6 months to make those muscles, this time around it should take say 6 weeks to recover that strength.
