Hey /fit/

I'm getting a job soon and thinking about joining the gym. It will most likely be 24 hour fitness.

Anyway, I'm a skinny bastard wanting to get bigger. Can I randomly go in, make my own - but reasonable - workout routine and come out with decent results? Or so I have to do some reading on forums, bodybuilding.com, check out books from the library and see on how to start.

What is your experience with joining a gym as a newbie?

Pic not related but delicious.

5x5 = 5 sets of 5? How long does someone usually wait between each set?

For safety concerns, you should get instruction. Also, a little research and planning maximizes your workout.

If you have never used equipment or are not familiar with the exercises you want to do, I would seriously recommend a short training session. Poor form is only going to lead to injuries and wasted time. Also, you do not want to look like a total retard trying to figure out how something works.
