I have rounded shoulders (overly inward and downward) and look like I'm slouching over, even when straining to stand as straight as possible. I also experience frequent pain and muscle ache in my neck, presumably caused by by this.

What sort of exercises are best for correcting this problem? Is this caused by certain muscle groups being more developed than others, when it comes to the back, chest and shoulders?

If so, what muscles should I focus on and what muscles should be avoided to achieve balance?

try rows and lat pulldowns maybe.

Shrugs, dips, bench presses, presses, rows, all done with barbells or dumbbells, with the exception of dips, those are done with bodyweight . You might want to get a chest expander device as well.

go over to tnation and look up the authors link. eric cressey has written a bunch of articles on posture and what to do to correct it. there will be a bunch of small muscle problems like rotators and hip flexors that will be contributing to the problem. other authors as well but start with cressey. it's helped me a bunch.

Went through all his articles. The word "posture" was not featured in any of them.
