my armpit hurts. theres a little lump there under the skin, and it's painful to the touch, but it's not red or anything. rather than see a real doctor, i am asking dr. /fit/.

is it just an ingrown hair or something? how do i fix it? pic slightly related, i think it might be lupus.

Probably the beginning of a cyst or ingrown hair. Put a moist heat pack on it whenever you can to try to bring the infection to the surface. You just gotta wait it out, most likely.

I get those from time to time too, although in my case, I'm sure it's due to the use of copious amounts of antiperspirant.

It's probably a swollen lymph node, and it can be harmless like in my case, in which I just cut back until it goes away, or it can be the sign of an infection or something.

They go away after a few days, but you should pay attention to what you're doing to your armpit. If it's not irritation caused by antiperspirant or shaving it or something else you're doing to the skin, it might be a sign of an infection.

It can be a range of things, seb. cyst or ingrown hair being quite common. Doc is always the safest option but this doesn't seem to be your preferred method.
