fixed gear bikes Anonymous
what do you think about them /fit/?

i've been riding a vintage schwinn road bike for a few months now and i have been looking for something better (lighter, not broken, etc). these bikes always catch my eye because the people on them are FAST. not only that but i figure with less components, i will have less to worry about maintenance wise.

fixed gear bikes are for faggots. get a single speed so you can coast down hills.

Why is there a fixie thread every other day??!?

Jesus man, it's a bicycle... It has no gears... So if you have no hills or never plan on doing any REAL riding it's perfect. I ride one occasionally, but I would much prefer one of my real road bikes as I can realistically ride a century with over a mile of elevation gain in one day and not feel like shit the next day.

TL;DR: do you wear girls jeans or ride in a velodrome? if yes, then buy one.

its a laugh boosting past all the roadies on hills on a mountain bike with gears.

but seriously if you don't want to do track racing there is no need for a fixed gear
and if you want to track race you will still need a "normal" road bike, so stick with that first
trust me, having breaks is a fine thing and a transmission isn't that bad either

and all those single speed folks i met are all stupid hipsters that can't even ride a bike properly and are a threat in traffic

it honestly depends on what kind of riding you are doing. if you are just commuting or looking to do quick couple mile sprints, then its a good bike. if you are looking to up your squat, its a good bike. if you are trying to save money, its a good bike. but if you are trying to do real cycling, dont bother. another thing, getting super expensive deep v's or aerospokes defeats the purpose of buying a fixie because you just dropped like 300+ on wheels alone

dont be a stupid hipster and ride brakeless. yeah its fun doing skid stops and all, but what if your chain snaps? at least run a front brake as a backup

Hipster trash.

Get a real bike.

Here's a nice entry level bike that'll do everything you want. You can even take it off-road despite it riding like a street bike while on it.
