Hi, I'm female and i've always wanted to learn boxing. Thing is I see it more like form of exercise rather than actual fighting sport, ie breaking someone nose and getting concussions is not in the program ( i know i sounds like wuss but i literally am not able to hurt a fly if i can help it). For that reason it's remained something i've always wanted to do but i dunno... now I'm wondering if it's possible to just learn the howtos and maybe spar in protective gears without getting involved in actual matches?

boxing is boring, learn muay thai

It's hard to find a place that teaches that within a reasonable distance.

You don't want to learn the fighting aspect? So what'll you do when someone rapes you?

Like most women, she'll enjoy it and then bitch to the police afterward.
>> well fuck your shit !SvVHiVQG4I
Get gloves and wraps, go to a gym, hit a heavy bag until some guy sees you flailing around and offers to help you. Isn't that standard operating procedure for chicks?

I'm specifically interested in boxing

>>276633
I want to learn the fighting aspect I just don't want to apply it in real fights on the ring, because I'm squeamish.

I don't think I'll be squeamish if my life is in danger, self preservation and all.

>>276637
sure and then the guy will try to get into my pants instead of teaching me. Not necessary a bad thing, but not exactly the aim of the whole procedure. I don't need to get in that much of trouble to just get laid.
>> faggot !kzxLmJyzX.
I want to learn to fight but i dont want to fight.
I want to learn to drive but i dont want to drive.
I want to go to college but i don't want to use it to get a job.

This shit could be a meme.

On the subject, they have classes for likeminded (or should i say pathetically weak) women who want to piss around with a bag and tell their friends they do "boxing". Don't waste peoples time who have a passion for this sport, go to the shitty classes and waste your time with the rest of the women who dont have the balls (pun intended) to go the whole way.

I've been to a million fighting gyms and I've yet to find one that will make you fight if you don't want to fight. Sparring is (usually) open to everyone because it's much different than just going through the motions and it's just good to do.

Go, learn, enjoy.

I suppose it will make no difference to tell you that i don't care to tell anyone that i'm boxing to make me look cool, i've been out of high school for long time now. Many get involved in different sports for different reasons, get over it.

I see, that's a response I've been looking for, actually. One more question: how's the man/woman ratios is dealt in a gym? I know nothing about how things work, so I'm looking for any helpful info.

I wonder why no one has mentioned the cardio-kickboxing classes and similar....

To answer OP's question, it is very possible to learn the how-to's AND maybe spar in protective gear without getting involved in actual matches.
Not everyone who trains in boxing competes professionally or even at all.
There are several who only mess around in the ring occasionally with others in their class and those fights range from GRARRR KNOCKOUT to 'lets just throw punches in the general direction of each other but not hurt anything"

Combat sports are usually male-dominated.
In my area, the ratio is usually
25% Female for kick-boxing
35% for kickboxing/karate
and.... well, I haven't met any female MMA/BJJ practitioners...
Don't let that deter you, though.
If you look hard enough, you're sure to find other women, even a few female instructors.
If there aren't any women in the class, that's a yellow (not red) flag. If it's a small or new group, you might just be the first one. If it's large and long-standing, then it might be something else....

just because she doesn't want to fight in a real match doesn't mean she doesn't want to fight in protective gears, read the first post carefully and as 276658 says she can do just that.

I'm currently boxing in a Martial arts gym and yes it would be quite possible for you to learn the techniques without fighting. I wouldn't recommend it however.

If you want to start boxing follow these steps.
1. Find a boxing gym near you.
2 Ask if it would be possible to take a trial class.
3. Take a trial class.
4. Buy some hand-wraps and some gloves.
5. Enroll in the class.
6.Realize that boxing is way more work that you thought but it'S still awesome.
7.train
8.train some more
9. Train even more.
10. Begin to do some sparring ( if you never spar, you'll never be good at boxing. Shadow boxing and hitting and heavybag is one thing. FIghting an opponent who throw punches back is another.)
11.Train
12.Congratulations you can now call yourself an amateur boxer. Go back to training.

A good gym should have at least a ring, some heavy bags, some speed bags and at leat a precision bag. It should also have some free weights and a squat rack.

You should look for a gym that look like this:
www.tristargym.com (it's were I train.)

If you want to just do it as a form of exercise, just hit a heavy bag after learning how to properly throw punches.
