I did squats (along with some leg weight machines) for the first time on Saturday and my thighs still hurt whenever I walk or sit down! Is this normal?

I'm a girl, weak and an absolute beginner, by the way. I was planning on going again today but now I have to wait until after Kendo tomorrow. Sucks.

Yes, it's normal. You're a n00b and overworked yourself.

OP here. But how? The leg circuit was on low weights. For squats I did two sets of ten with only 30 lbs on the barbell! I could manage 180 easy on the leg press, so I don't understand. I even used one of those squat machines (Is that the right word? It's a normal barbell on a vertical track, not assisted in any other way) to be safe.

Yes its normal to be sore after working out. Less machines, more squats and deadlifts

Squats are one of the hardest exercises to perform. By that, I don't mean that they're difficult to learn how to do (which they kind of are) but I mean that they use a lot of muscles and work them very hard, which is why they're one of the most recognized exercises today. Don't trip about being too sore, just make sure you take it easy. They're tough exercises.

My thighs were near useless for a week when I started leg training.
Enjoy the pain though, it means you did it right.

OP here. Well, at least it's a good sign. When would you suggest I go again? I'm a little leery of doing squats while I'm still a little sore. Should I stick to cardio until I feel normal again?

Also, thanks for all the replies!

Unless the pain means she strained something due to improper technique.

Oh man my hip was really goddamn sore the other day, stabbing pain every step I took. It's a result of my one-sided physiotherapy my stupid therapist makes me do.

Went to my local gym, did some squats (not even heavy ones, free bar) and I walked out with no pain.

SQUATZ HEAL YOU

is it true that adding protein to your diet will lessen post-workout soreness?

Remember to take your multivitamin to reduce recovery time. Protein does not especially reduce recovery time, but increases gains.

If you want to speed up the recovery, do a few reps of a body weight exercise targeting your sore area. This will increase bloodflow to that area.

For example: 10 Body weight SQUATZ for a hurting ass.

20 pushups for sore triceps and pectorals from benching.
