I've been biking to/from work a bit over 4 miles each way for about a month. I am not noticing results.

I am 6', weigh approximately 160 pounds (no scale). Somehow my arms seem more defined than before, but my legs are still scrawny and not muscular at all (slightly fatty quads). Will biking increase my leg strength at all? I think it's increasing my lung capacity (came from a smoker's home, shit sucks, etc) but I don't really know how to measure that.

Also, wondering if buying a dehumidifier would help me. I have pretty bad mucous pretty much all the fucking time. I don't know if it's allergies, never had them as a kid but it started a couple years ago and hasn't really let up (I'm only 18)

regards

don't expect to gain muscle from cardio. you need to do weights.

I ride about that much per day - 8-10 miles a day. In a week, it is probably around 70-100 miles biked, since i go other places besides work and love riding every chance i get. No car either.

what kind of bike do you have? you basically need to be moving your legs the entire time riding for any sort of effective 'workout', but 4 miles is sort of a joke to any serious cyclist who takes 10 miles to just warm up.

My thighs and legs are definately bulkier, but i've been doing this for over a year, and i don't really consider it a 'workout'. There is no warm up/cool down period. If you did 10 miles at a time, with some faaaast riding, that would probably give your legs some work.

If you're just concerned about doing squats, but can't afford some decent equipment or a gym membership, then you can still do something. Fill up a durable backpack, or something, with lots of stuff, put it on, and squat, just like you would with a bar. You might not be able to get the weight as high, but just do 20 reps instead of ten.

It's not as great as a home gym, but if you do things like this, and eat right, you will make progress.

Gym is too expensive, I only have a part time job

I have been eating eggz, peanut butter, lentils, fruit/veggies etc but I don't know how many calories I'm getting overall.

I can't just put the cable into my shirt, my headphones are hooked up to my computer not an ipod or something.

Body squatz. During the end of the off season I ramp up to near a 1000 a day. Simply throw a hockey stick or broom over your shoulders and go. Start small and build up. Youll be sore

This is going to sound strange, but bare with me. I was told for a long time I had bad allergies and doctors had me taking claratin, allegra, pseudaphedrine, getting allergy tests, using nasal inhalers, the list goes on and on and on. All of them seemed to help a little, but nothing seemed to help a lot, ie, nothing really worked.

About a year ago I started getting these nasty head aches, the right side of my face swelled up a little, and I was feeling pressure behind my right eye. I went to my doctor and insisted something different be done. So, they took an MRI of my skull, which revealed.... nothing obvious. I was referred to an eye/ear/nose/throat specialist who took one look at the MRI and promptly noticed what had been plaguing me my entire life. I had a bone spur protruding into my right nasal passage, pinching a number of nerves and mucking up my entire sinus system, hence the congestion. The surgically removed it and bam, I don't have allergies or any weird mucus shit anymore.

tl;dr - Get an MRI, you may have something blocking up your sinus cavities.
