Alright, /fit/, I was wondering about a certain type of pushup.

What's the name of the style of pushup where your elbows are against your sides instead of straight out?

This is called a Bad Form Push Up.

I don't know, but I was about to ask /fit/ whether elbows back or elbows out was better/more effective. I always do pushups with elbows back (against my sides).

Triceps push-ups?
The logic being that rather than contracting the pectoralis major (chest) which is only possible with the elbows out, its all about generating lift through extending the arm using the triceps.
I've always heard them called that (from three people I know, a fitness instructor, a push-up-crazy friend, and some skinny dude that shouldn't have known what a push up is).

OBVIOUSLY IT WILL WORK DIFFERENT MUSSELS

I think it's related to a planche. I remember some lesson on doing planches and the first excercise was a pushup like you said.

Elbows back: most work done by the triceps (arm)
Elbows out: most work done by pecs (chest)

Fuck I want some seafood now.

On an unrelated (well, more related note) I know a dude that trains fighters (UFC/WCL type stuff) and he has his boys do a lot of triceps pushups. Good for punching, I guess.

Well you might as well start calling yourself a christian, because your beliefs are STUPID AND WRONG.

A planche is basically a push up, but your feet don't touch the ground despite the fact that your body remains mostly parallel with it.
