i would advise you to find a personal trainer or go to a running shop with a gait machine... it seems to me that it could be your posture and/or incorrect footwear -do you over pronate? do you know? are your shoes stablising you enough? don't know? find a running store with a gait machine and get checked out NOW!!
go and ask for advice from a trained professional, they will help you up your running.
ALSO, only the top elite athletes can run a mile in less that 8 minutes so I wouldn't bother aiming for that. Try to get it down the 'army' level - ie, 10 mintues, comfortable pace and being able to hold a semi decent converstation during that time.
