Parkour Anonymous
Sup /fit/?

I was wondering if any of you guys is doing parkour or free-running. I lately started doing some "exercises" like precise jumping, getting over objects and stuff, but I really lack experience and techniques.

Does anybody have some good advice for me like what can I do to get better at parkour. I know that excercising a lot is probably the best, but I know there are some techniques one should know like for excample rolling without hurting and stuff.

I am working out in the gym 4 time a week currently, are there any muscle groups that I should work on specifically for parkour.

Thanks for your advide /fit/

and inb4 oatz and squatz.

you would want to stay away from bulking and work out more for clean strength.
bulk never helps in parkour.
best exersizes whould come from your own body weight because it's natural and gives you a good sence of your own ability, since parkour is 100% about co-ordinating your body movements and such.
doing the specific motions over and over and over for a week help; instead of running a course full of obsticles and failing it, try working on one park for a week, or a month, until you pretty much master it.
haven't started parkour myself, but I've beeen researching it and getting ready, so I know a bit about it.

as for muscle groups, as long as you're not using a machine and you Are working on your entire body proportionately

also you should eat oatz and do lots of squatz.

go rock climbing, in a rock gym if you have one
it will teach you to recognize and use the best grips quickly, etc.

Become a pull up monster. After getting down how to land correctly, jumping and climbing are the basic necessities of parkour. If you're doing SQUATZ right, I guess you have the jumping down. Though, if you really want hops, look into Olympic Lifts. As for pull ups, do them to the point you can do a muscle up. Google it if you're not already familiar with the term.

^^^ Skip to the end if you already know the importance and basics of not breaking your ankles.

You might have a parkour community near you already. I'd suggest looking for one since it's always nice to parkour it up with a group.

gynmastics and yoga are your friends.
body weight exercises: pistols, pull-ups, one-hand pushups
walk on your hands
climb trees
the strongest person I ever met laughed at weights and just did handstands, handwalking, and treeclimbing. he veins popping out from his hands to his neck

Practice the basics like rolling, jumping, landing, climbing and at first don't worry about the actual techniques. Don't start by memorizing techniques. Techniques are just tricks if you don't know how to use them. Start off by going at an obstacle course and doing what YOU think is the best way to tackle the obstacle and this will help you get a sense at what you're good at and get a feel for your body and your limitations. After you get core moving down throw in some techniques like more advanced underbars or kongs.
