Alright, so heres my issue. Ive got a generally good idea of how to get back in shape, but I just cant get myself to do it. It usually goes like this about every night. Before I go to bed, I look in the mirror and tell myself, "Tomorrow Im not going to eat shit all day!". And then I end up waking up and doing just that. Or Ill be fine the majority of the day, and when it starts to get later I just pig out. I also understand that because I enjoy my beer quite frequently, thats going to be a hell of a setback. That and I smoke roughly a pack a day. I just wanted to know, what have any of you guys done to jumpstart your motivation/ actually stick to doing it?

I started small, adding one or two good behaviors at a time. Things like putting my laundry away as soon as it was done, etc. The more good behaviors you can instill the more confidence and ease you have in adding on other good behaviors like watching what you eat etc.

Also, you can always try taking photos of your fat ass and taping them everywhere (especially where there is food) to force yourself to remember.

I like this idea, lol.

It's 90% mental. Step one, control your thinking. Think only about getting in shape. Think about the foods that will get you there (lean proteins, vegetables). Every time a thought of something unhealthy enters your mind, squash the thought immediately. Pay attention to your thought patterns. It takes work but eventually it will become as habitual as your unhealthy thinking is right now.

Step two, find your motivators. For some people it's energetic music, heavy metal, techno, Bach, it doesn't matter as long as it makes you want to kick some ass. It could also be caffeine in the form of coffee (without fattening cream and sugar).

OP here: Also curious as to where this would fit in. I understand that good sleep is fairly important to productive weight-loss. But my work hours are usual 14-16 hour shifts from mid-day to overnight, so my sleep pattern is fairly jumbled. Not to mention when I actually do get the time to enjoy sleep, I either end up going to the bar, or because Ive had so much caffine/energy boosters at work that when the time comes for sleep I simply cannot do it.

I have a few pictures of beautiful fit women around (pic related). No way they'd fuck a fatty, so that is motivating. Also, some men's magazines laying around with buff dudes to remind me what the final goal is.

If you're constantly staring at something that says "Dont be fat" you will remember not to be fat!

Hey, FAGGOT.

You're a fucking WORTHLESS SACK OF SHIT, you know that? BAWWWWW about being fat and ugly and emo and how 'oh I don't have the motivation, the pain in my soul keeps me from exercising'.

What kind of FAGGOT FUCKED UP BULLSHIT IS THAT? Get your sack of shit ass up, out of your chair, RIGHT THE FUCK NOW, go outside, and run for one hour in one direction, then come back and do push-ups to exhaustion. RIGHT FUCKING NOW, YOU WORTHLESS EXCUSE FOR A TURD.

Repeat this every day, and remember, the day you miss a workout is the day I come in and cut off one of your balls. Men who don't exercise really don't need them, you know?

Give up now. You're not going to get anywhere.

What got me going is spending a little money on the effort. I bought a book that explained in detail how to diet properly and laid out a basic meal plan. I then stuck to that meal plan and haven't looked back in months. You just have to set rigid guidelines for yourself and then mindlessly follow them. If you allow yourself to eyeball every meal/responsibility, you'll err on th side of unhealthy choices.

Find something worth losing the weight for. I personally didn't give a shit about losing weight until I got in a relationship.

Now I'm eating veggies with olive oil to clean me out, chicken breast, fruit for snacks, and cycling/weight trianing for about an hour a day. Once a week I fast and drink nothing but water.

I was 350 lbs last December, now I'm down to about 270-280. For me it took a near-heart attack and my girl playing with my man-titties to make the change.

i was the same way. i would go to bed and think, tomorrow i'm going to eat healthy! and then i would never do it.
my mom actually bought me nutrisystem for 3 months. the food was horrible, but at least it helped me moderate my eating by being on a plan. if i hadn't started with that, i would never have lost 40 pounds.
so, having a plan really helped me control myself.
