Hi /fit. After two months of on and off running on a trail near my house and doing stupid bodyweight exercises, I scored a free month at a local gym. So today I hopped on one of the treadmills and saw it would time you and tell you how far you'd gone. Just for the hell of it, I decided to time my mile, I got 6:37. The last time I had my mile timed was about 3 years ago and it took me 10 minutes, so this is a pretty exciting moment for me.

Anyway, just wondering, what's considered a good mile among serious athletes? What should I set as my next goal? What does the average high school or collegiate athlete get on their mile?

Well, to be fair, you aren't really getting much faster, you're just getting better at running the same speed for a longer time.

Your top end speed doesn't get very high when you practice running slowly

People run miles in 5 min or 4:30. This means that a few runner's passed you by when you where peddling and made you look like a pussy.

Well to be fair, doing any or all of the previously mentioned exercises will increase your speed. But, along with the half-assed structured running schedule this guy has goin on it will help him to get closer to 5 minutes. Hell if anything he'll PR. I understand what you're sayin man but his mile time would get better.
