protein doesnt have a lot of calories. only half the calories per gram as fat or carbs, and most whey is light on those. Whey protein is not a weight gainer, it's a protein supplement which is good for gaining and losing. As far as the ratio, just make sure you get enough protein first and essential fats, then make up the rest of the calories you need with carbs and see where that leaves you. also 100g carbs a w/o day, 70g on an off day.
