/fit/ is this shit worth it as part of a regular course of lean muscle build up? Or simply an epic waste of money on nasty-tasting supplements with corporate spin?

yes it works. no you don't really need it.
It enlarges your muscles by binding more water in the cells, which allows you to put more energy into a workout.
You are able to squeeze out that last bit more.
If you stop taking it, your muscles will return to normal size, losing the water.
