Pushups Anonymous
I do pushups in sets of twenty almost daily. Twenty seems to be my max. I also have a pull up bar. How can I increase the number of reps I can do?

I try to do more than twenty in my set, but usually can not. I take a rest then do another twenty. I want to be able to do about 50 in two min.

Do more sets, do pushup variations (wide, narrow, pushing upwards, pushing downwards) and do more sets. Your body has gotten used to wussing out at 20, so you need to mix it up.

thx, brah, will throw in some diamond style and extra wide styles from now on, and up the set count

I had the same problem. You might not be getting any stronger because of form- make sure you go slow and keep everything as perfect as possible. Also, most of the problems with hitting walls like this have to do with breathing. While you do your pushups focus on taking slow deep breaths and add some cardio to the mix.

When i went to the army i did 85 pushups in one min.

Never really did pushups before going there. just Benchpress and do dips.

yeap.

op,
to increase reps, u gotta lower rest time between sets, and increase the number of sets.
also, in between sets, you should try doing jumping jacks, leg raises, mountain climbers etc. to increase your work capacity.
and, like the previous anons have mentioned, you should diversify your pushups.
instead of 5 sets of standard
do 1 set of each variation

example of a workout:
20 standard
20 jumping jacks
20 wide arm
20 crunches
20 diamonds
20 squat jumps
20 dive bombers
20 mountain climbers
20 decline

it worked for me.

I have solved this problem. I reached my max on the pull up bar and push ups which was 15, and 40 respectively.
It was good, but it doesn't build muscle very effectively.
Here's what I do

- take your college/school/whatever back pack
- remove some weights from your squat bar or wherever, or fucken buy some
- put them in the back up
- profit

I do pull ups with 10kgs of, shit is awesome

Nothing wrong with pushups, they're a fucking awesome pump after doing bench...

But what is the fucking point in being able to do a hundred, apart from wining bets?

What is the point in doing pushups, full stop?

Like I said, I love doing a few sets after a chest and back workout, when using actual weights is no longer an option.

Gives me a good pump.

do some typewriter push ups if you don't have weights you can use while doing normal push ups. Work your way up to one armed push ups. Making yourself stronger will make non weighted reps easier so you can do more of them, plus you'll actually have strong arms too
