Pectus Excavatum Anonymous
Alright guys, I have Pectus Excavatum aka Funnel Chest. Now it is similar to the severity as shown in the picture. I try to run for a long time, but I get tired pretty easily, I try not to believe it's my chest that is causing this and try to keep running, and I start feeling stabbing pain in the diaphragm. Is this really keeping me from running long distances? Give me words of wisdom /fit/. If you also have funnel chest, and you can run long distances give me words of inspiration.

Thank you.

its your body use it how you want to use it. after all what is the point of having a body if it isn't going to do what you want it to do.

That makes sense. Mild funnel chest probably won't effect me that much right? Should I stop being such a pussy and keep running even though my diaphragm feels like it's gonna rip?

FUUUCK.
Oh well hopefully I can push through this. About the stabbing pain in the diaphragm, is that normal? Should I just try to run past it?

Same here.
The respiratory problems really suck.

Have you consulted a doctor about that pain?

Negative I haven't. From my Airforce ROTC guys, they say it's all normal and tell me to push through it. There are surgeries out there, but I will be returning to school in a few months. I need to be able to run long distances because I want to join the Airforce after college.

find a chick with an outie, like a match made in a sideshow.

Its a stitch?
If so its the build up of gas under the diaphragm. you need to breathe slower and deeper, be hydrated for your run, and dont eat soon b4 hand

My friend was like you, he had funnel chest caused by his Marfan syndrome, about the same as the pic too. He actually died because he over exerted himself while running, can't remember the full details, but his mother explained it to me in the phone call.

So yeah, be careful with that shit, ask your doctor about your limitations.

Fucking shit, and I was all pumped up to run tomorrow too.
bawwww.
I'll be careful. Once I got cramps but I kept exercising in my martial arts class, almost blacked out, so I know the symptoms of reaching the limits, I'll stop before I almost blackout though.

Also during my Airforce Physical Training, I was running and breathing to fast, and I got some massive stitches and I was not even short of breath, light headed, sick, etc... I'll run tomorrow and I'll come back someday and post my experience, hopefully it'll give some /fit/'s some insight if they also have funnel chest.

I've got that too, not as bad as the pic though. Fortunately it doesn't cause me any problems other than how it looks.
