Hay /fit/
Its my first time on here, and I'm considering a workout regime mainly to lose weight around my stomach, hips and pelvis. Apart from sit-ups, are there any other exercises I can do or activities I can do to lose weight from those areas (and possibly build up some muscle / tone up in the mean time).

Im not a fatty or anything like that, but my belly is just starting to get a little bit too round for my liking. My body type is mesomorphic, but my fat collects towards the bottom of my torso.

You can't spot-reduce. Just start running or doing other cardio (efx, elliptical, bike, etc) a few times a week.

I am in the exact same boat actually. I started playing DDR (seriously, it's cardio you won't get bored with) and I've lost most of my gut in three months (about 15lbs) doing it for an hour 4 days a week. My back fat is a bit more stubborn but I've stepped things up a bit in the last week or so. It's not that hard anyways since my energy level has gone up so much from the workouts. But yeah, I'm 5'10" 165 as of ten minutes ago so I've got a bit further than you to go but this has worked for me.
