Just a quick question about a possible injury from bench pressing. I'd appreciate any help.

I have slight pain in the left side of my back, about 3 inches starting from where the shoulder blade ends and going down.
I'm following a 5x5 +5lbs/week bench press exercise. Currently benching 120 on a bodyweight of 145.
I squeeze my shoulder blades when i bench press.
But i feel like the weight is pushing me in the bench.
I think it's because i'm doing something wrong with my shoulder blade squeezing. I try to squeeze as hard as i can. I don't lift my upper back very much and my feets are clean on the floor. I only had this problem recently.

the weight will push you into the bench. it's called gravity.

are you doing any upper back work? you can't bench if you don't have a strong upper back. so it's possible that your back is too weak and this is how you're learning about it. small tear or somesuch.

stretch and massage the area. maybe ice it. if pain persists, see your doctor.

Upper back? How about a few Chin-ups and Bent-over rows? I'm ready to change my routine if i lack something.

back off the bench if it hurts, christ. Why do people persist in doing things that injure themselves?

You don't squeeze them AS you bench press.

Get em retracted and your feet and ass set.

Then unrack the bar.

The weight will keep your shoulder blades tucked as long as you don't flare your elbows out(which you shouldn't be doing).
