How much should one exercise in a day? I'm trying to run/jog 4 miles a day (I managed two in half an hour, which is kinda crap I know, but I just started).

An hour a day is plenty. Don't be afraid to ease into it in the beginning.

Every two days for at least 45 minutes.

Ease in to it. You don't want to end your exercise program in the first month with a strain injury. When I started working out, I was doing about half an hour of low-intensity cardio, and about half an hour of light weight lifting. That was seven years ago. Today I spend two hours a day in the gym.
