Hey /fit/I've been boxing pretty hardcore lately, and I was wondering how many times a week it is safe to practice.
As much as you are conditioned to take, stranger!Athletes can train up to 8 hours a day at their peak... and while you may be more of a regular Joe, so to speak... just go as often as you like :)Of course, it's a good idea to have at least 1 or 2 rest days per week.
>>90081I don't have to worry about any kind of brain damage? (paranoid)
boxing is not fucking sparring everyday. You do a lot of running to build your cardio up and puches. work your combo. Do sparring one every 2 weeks or less. Getting punch in the face can give you a headache for a whole week and yea brain damage is possible. this is why pro boxer only fight at most twice a year.
>>90082All those punches to the head aren't doing any good for your brain, certainly. It's tragic to see Ali nowadays, he can barely even talk right. But that comes from years of boxing, not after a few fights
>>90087A lot of that can be attributed to Parkinson's as well as being fairly old, as well.
>>90093He has Alzheimer's, not the shakes.
Let's just say that his brain got hit too often.Boxer's disease. And in fact, one heavy hit to the head can already do serious damage.Football players can get it too when hitting the ball with the head.
>>90100Yeh, that's the one. My fault.
>>90110>>90100http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhammad_Ali#In_retirementHe has parkinson ffs...
>>90068I boxed for a good long while, and loved it. By practicing, if you mean bagwork and such, daily worked for me. But if you mean sparring, try to limit it. Brain damage isn't much fun.
>>90086>>90153What these two men said. You should be spending most of your time on bag work, pad work, and shadow boxing. Lots of jump rope and conditioning exercises.
I did kickboxing for a few years, sparring and all. After a while I just decided to get a new hobby. Getting hit in the head like it's a big watermelon just felt way too disrespectful to my brain. I found judo instead, which was excellent, but then I stopped going because I'm a lazy ass.
>>90133How many boxers get parkinson's?And how many non-boxers do?I know boxing causes brain damage for some, but everyone assumes that Ali got parkinsons because of his sport
Take boxing/kickboxing for like a year. Hit it pretty hard until you have a really solid grounding within upright fighting. After that, go do a grappling/MMA art. You'll never forget what you learnt in the first year of boxing... it will be so ingrained into your muscles and mind. You'll do some striking in MMA too, just not as much head smashing.
