/fit/ I made a thread a few days ago about an ingrown toenail but it 404ed by the time I woke up the next morning.

What can I try to get rid of the fucker? I got Epsom salts, soaked the foot in it for 30 minutes last night until it got lukewarm but what the shit is that supposed to do? Gonna do it again here in a few minutes.

I just stubbed it and it had pus coming out and it's getting really red. Shit sucks.

tl;dr What do you do for an ingrown toenail.

inb4 doctor, it's

You pretty much have to go to a dermatologist if you let it get too bad. They'll anesthetize you and pull it out with scissors and pliers.
>> Anonymous
It's not that bad yet, but it's been getting like that for months... I've just trimmed it short and it stops hurting in a hour or two. But I'm trying to let it grow out now. Is there anything I can do at home for it?
>> Anonymous
I had one, not as bad as yours, but it still hurt like a motherfucker. I just cut it off with a knife and clippers. Kept doing that to prevent it from coming back and eventually it stopped.
>> Anonymous
Put Vicks Vaporub on it every night before you go to bed. For real. Trim it as best you can, slather it up, put on some Vicks, put on a sock, go to bed.

I preformed some homemade surgery on mine just a few days ago. worked out great. Though I am an experienced professional; I once removed a wart from a toe as well.
>> Anonymous
You can rarely fix these yourself.

Go to the doctor, OP.

I had these, it was fucking horrible. Went to the doctor and they over injected me with the numbing agent and fucked me up for a long time. But still, go to the doctor.

Okay, The side of the nail DOES FUCKING NOT grow outwards, you dumbasses

When you walk or put pressure on your toes, your skin gets pushed up and when that skin gets infected while its being pushed up, ta-da! your "ingrown toenail"

My doctor gave me some anesthesia in the area and cut the skin around it, and its been gone for about 4-5 years now. Hasn't come back once. Do that.

I had a real fucked up one a few years back, got it removed twice by the doctor (it came back both times). I finally ended up fixing it myself.

It was one nasty motherfucker, pus seeping though my socks and shit.

See a doctor.

When I was younger I got these all the time and didn't know what it was. I didn't have any medical coverage or Internet so I was on my own. I would just try to clean that shit up, pop the pus bubbles, put shitloads of neosporin on it, and bandaids.

From a day of walking my sock would be bloody from my toe to my heel. Shit was painful as fuck.

Now I don't get them anymore, but fuck me, I wish to shit I could have had a doctor take care of it. Plus the toe where I got them looks sort of permanently disfigured, there is some callousy tissue under the toenail so it isn't firmly attached to the pink skin shit underneath it.

tl;dr; Shit gets worse. Have a pro take care of it.

If it gets damaged or cut improperly your nail can definitely grow spurs into your foot. I had an ingrown toenail that got so bad it grew out the other side of my toe. Once it did I could rip it out and its been fine every since.

Fag.

You need to listen to me. If the toenail gets so infected that a doctor wants to remove it, make them remove the entire thing instead of just a sliver. I had to have like five of these surgeries before they actually removed the bastard and let it grow back. The surgery is painful and disturbing.

OP, just go to a doctor. There's not much you can do and it'll get worse over time.

I had one when I was 13. It was very infected and I wasn't play to football for half a year. Doctors were tinking about cutting my part of my toenail, but because of my young age or for some other reason they didn't want to do that. The doctors prescribed some antibiotics to me, I ate them twice a day for two weeks. I also showered my foot and soaked it quite often. You should change your socks more frequently and give lot of air to your toe. I also needed to change my shoes because doctors were afraid that there could be bacterium.

But really, go to doctor. This fucker can and will get worse without taken care of.

just go to a fucking podiatrist, the procedure is like one minute. didn't believe it until i went myself
>> Anonymous
I posted a reply in your thread, explaining how I had a similar problem for a fucking long time and tried to cure it myself.

That didn't work.

anyway, it was long. The TL;DR version - go to the doctor - you have an ingrown toenail, it is already THAT bad.

Huh, I got these all the time as a kid. My mum used to help me pick it out. Eventually they just stopped growing like that.

Let your feet breathe so the toe can heal. Also, nice to not have tight shoes on.

"Bacterium" is the singular form, though it's so seldomly used that "bacteria" has become a sort of mass noun.

You might not need a Doctor. I've had a similar problem, and foolishly I let it go until it was so swollen I couldn't wear steel toe boots.
Helping a friend move into college during winter semester was the most painful experience once because of this, and when I finally got the boot off it looked to be oozing some kind of pus.

Epsom salts work, it just takes time. My toe looked worse then that, but for a couple weeks I would do a hot epsom salt bath for my foot until the water got totally cold. I would do this every evening until it looked better and the pain went completely away. I haven't had the same problem since.

I dug mine out with a multitool, it got to a point where I decided an hour of dull pain while working it out is better than the shooting bullshit every time I glance a wall with my toe

I've laser surgery done for mine, it was really badly infected too. and the nail cut all the way to the corner of the toe (kinda hard to describe, but imagine your toenail coming out where its not supposed to).

Wore sneakers that very same day, no recurrence since then.

OP here, thanks guys. I put a wedge under it last night, fucking hurt prying it up but it's not too bad now... I read wikipedia and it said this works sometimes, so I'll try it for a week or so with the Epsoms salts and if not I'll go to a podiatrist.

Get to a podiatrist- seriously. I put up with this same shit for about 4 years on and off doing work on my own toenail, but I finally caved and went to the podiatrist. If it's pain you're worried about- don't worry, I mean you've been dealing with the pain of that ingrown toenail for so long, it'll feel better after getting it removed. Only cost me 40 bucks. 10 minutes is all it took. Seriously, it's not that big a deal.
