/fit, my workout buddies are convinced that doing SQUATZ without a barbell pad somehow ruins your back and shoulders. Please help me convince them that they are, in actuality, just giant douches.
>> Anonymous
Just start verbally abusing them, start calling it a maxi/sissy/pussy/faggot-pad.

>convince them that they are, in actuality, just giant douches.
First convince yourself that YOU are a giant douche. Can't do it? FUck you.

If they can't do squats without padding, they are holding the bar too high on their backs. Tell them to move it down an inch or so, and the bar will sit in a valley between muscles on your upper back. Do it right, and you can use as heavy weights as you like in a wifebeater.

I have a squat-related problem: I exercise in the little workout room in my apartment building's basement and its gear is limited, it doesn't have a high enough rack for me to get under so to get the bar into the squatting position I have to lift it OVER my head and again once the set is done, and this is usually a hell of a lot more difficult than the actual squat. What can I do, other than to start paying a gym membership fee?

Use light enough weights that you can lift them over your head, compensate by squatting deeper (ass to floor, baby) + more repeats.

can you adjust the height of the bar for the bench? If you can, you can sometimes get it high enough to get underneath and unrack... might have to get in a half squat position already though.

All i can think of

wat

What do you mean the rack isn't high enough?
Explain. Because rite nao it sounds as if you are and idiot.

I assume that fancy gyms have a rack that lets you get the bar on your back without having to pull it from the ground, over your head, and then into squatting position. If that's not the case, please tell me how the hell you folks who squat with 200 kg on your back get the bar up there.

K here's an example.

That sort of rack right there? I don't have one.

I understand perfectly... by "rack" he may be referring to one from a bench press station, for example.

Hey guys, is doing squats like the dude in OP good?
With the piece of wood to elevate your heels?

This is what I do. I put the pegs in my bench press rack backwards (it is attached to the bench) and I do it this way. I have to crouch down somewhat, but it is way better than shelling out money for a squat rack.

Grab the pad, stick it down your pants, and call it a pussy rag/maxi-pad. Make sure they understand how douche they are. When other douches walk into the room, point them out to your douches and say "hey, we should get to know those douches, right my douches?" Ask them if they are going to douche tonight after the gym, because your mangina is feeling sore.

Zekker (sp) Squat: support the barbell in front of you; place the barbell in the crook of your arms (front of elbows).

Front Squat: clean the barbell off the floor to your shoulders; or clean the barbell from a hang to your shoulders; use a "clean grip"; squat.

lolwat

The guy is saying he has some kind of rack. He is also saying that it is not high enough. Nowhere does he mention a bench

>>408667
What do you have then? You say you have a rack, but what is it then?

>>408668
This makes sense. IF he uses the rack from the bench press.

It would be tough. The only thing you can do is what>>408661suggested. Just get into a sort of squat position and push yourself up to begin with. Putting the weight back might be tough though.

I never said I have a squat rack, don't know how you got that impression, but I do have a low rack for the bench. I'll check if it can be adjusted. The front squat looks interesting too; doing way more reps than recommended is something I have already had to do.

Thanks to all who helped.

Overhead squat. DUH.

overhead squats are only useful as a flexibility diagnostic, otherwise they suck. They're beginner exercises, it's like if I can benchpress 400 pounds but being forced to use 5 pound pink dumbells, it's humiliating

I would also like to know how you get into position to squat on a block. I have trouble enough balancing the bar walking back to do back squats without having to worry about inching back onto a piece of rubber/wood.

haha your friends are fags. get new friends before you catch the gay.

I wrap a small towel around the bar only to keep my shirt from getting grime and rust smudges.

you are the kind of guy who doesn't go below 90 degrees so he can squat more weight.

It simply compensates for flexibility issues with the hamstrings
