I've started riding my bike 8miles to school and back 3 days a week . Is this adequate exercise to help me slim down without getting muscular?

why the hell do you think that cycling will make you muscular? what were you planning on doing, cycling whilst chugging a protein shake laced with synthol then squat the bike when you get to school?
are you that afraid of actually doing any exercise/so unfamiliar with ANY form of exercsie that you're deluded into thinking that you'll get muscular from half an hour of light cardio?

I took up cycling so I get toned up and look better. BAD MOVE. My legs got so buff I couldn't fit into my skinny jeans. I stopped doing that and now just do some light cardio on a treadmill.

yeah his rite. too much exercise, especailly cardio, only Builds muscle. If your a chick, you dont want to end up looking like a guy :o so try to ride really slow and not to far. gd luck :)

I used to cycle 120-ish miles per week normally, and both legs + forearms got alarmingly large compared to the rest of my body o.O I can hold a 25 mph pace on flat for hours, but still can only do around 40 push ups -.-

female here. Be VERY careful when exercising, if you push too hard you'll wake up with bulky arms (sooo unattractive). I suggest lifting 2lb weights, do about 15 reps (not too much!)
