I think it would be best if you did low weight high reps. You should rest anyway. If you pull a muscle or a tendon, you would be out of the gym for a while, and that would hinder, no shit eh?, you're ability to exercise. As far as drinking, I'm not a doctor, but if that's an aspect of yourself you don't wish to change, who am I to tell you to do so?
