people say to eat 4 - 6 meals per day to bulk and put on weight to confuse metabolism, but then they say eat 4-6 meals per day to lose weight, i mean......wat?

Either way it speeds up your metabolism.

If you're trying to gain then you want a fast metabolism to process your food quickly. If you're trying to lose, then you still want a fast metabolism to keep your body burning as many cals as possible while eating less.

First, eating 4-6 meals a day is not there to "confuse metabolism." It's there to ensure your body is getting a constant supply of proteins/carbs/etc to support your growth, because the body can only take a limited supply of each at any one time.

Second, "4-6 meals per day" is too vague. The meal set ups when you bulk and when you cut are completely different. The former has more protein as it is aimed to build muscle, while the latter just enough to maintain the muscle size and get rid of the fat via extensive cardiovascular exercise.
