fit, I have a few questions. Can i get the same result on my triceps by doing chin ups or pull ups verses close handed push ups? and are pullups/ chin ups any better for my pecs then say wide arm push ups?

Diamond push-ups are pure tricep and chest (more tricep than chest), with chin-ups your working more your bi-cep and with pull-ups your working your back. So no, not really.

wow. /fit/'s physiology is on a roll today

chins (pullup is type of chin) AND pushups are both INTERNAL rotator of the humeral head (upper arm) recruitment is different, but none the less similar. they are NOT opposites.

now for the learningnating portion.

think of the body in terms of vertical/horizontal planes. horizontal push (pushups) is opposite of a horizontal pull (bent over/seated row). chins are vertical pulls. these are as 'close' to opposite (hence, balance) as we're going to need.
