does /fit/ have any good workout to retain muscle mass, while burning excess fat on the stomach so one could get some abs? Any great ab workouts while on topic?

It doesn't matter how you're "built"

Most people don't have a six pack because of the layer of fat covering their stomach.

Haven't you ever heard you get abs in the kitchen not in the gym.

Not true. I'd have to become anorexic to have abs all the time...and then they wouldn't really be abs.

If I flex and lean back they can be seen but otherwise there is always a layer of fat over them. My body fat % is b/n 6-8% too. Its just not healthy to have it go lower.

I hear its alright to just do some cardio, maybe the treadmill or something along those lines to burn excess fat..but some say thats not a good idea...thoughts?

It isn't unfathomable.

I don't eat foods with fat and I workout.

Any male can have a body fat % below 10 if they just stop eating those hamburgers and pizzas.

Some people have strong abs that are covered by fat, others just don't have enough muscle to go through the skin.
I've got about 6% body fat and you can see my abs through the skin when I'm standing pretty well.

@ OP
You won't lose muscle mass by doing exercises if you maintain a proper level of nutritional input. Core workouts are great for what you're looking for. Weights would work, but are more likely to build muscle mass.

i'm in the same boat as you. i'm around 9-10% bodyfat and you can only really see the upper part of my abs.
