Hey /fit/, I'm trying to lose 20-30lbs within the next two months and I have no idea how to go about doing it. I'm a 5'4" female, weight almost 150lbs, and don't excersize at all. Pic is me.

I figured I'd start out by running for 30-60 minutes every day but I'm not really sure if that's enough. I'll probably cut down on what I eat but I don't really know where to start with that either, considering that I don't eat too poorly as it is. Is 20-30lbs even a reasonable goal for two months? (I do want to get in shape for good, but I'd particularly like to lose some fat in the next two months.) Any help is appreciated.

You shouldn't be worried as much about your weight as your composition. Buy some calipers and measure your bodyfat %. Like the other poster said check into HIIT and I would also recommend at least some resistance training.

Your diet is super important, so you might want to make sure that what you are eating is actually clean. If you want, you can create a small deficit-- find out what your BMR is currently and count what you are currently eating. Also try to eat 5-6 small meals a day as opposed to 3.

I would do cardio or HIIT (I would work up to that, as you don't exercise atm) 3-4 times a week, and on the off days do body weight exercises since you don't have access to a gym. Consider joining a gym as you say you want to be in shape for good. I think a gym would be more beneficial for your goals.

I think you could definitely lose some weight and tone up a bit more.

I'm this poster. To be honest, you really don't look like 150 lb. I suppose that is a little overweight, but not as bad as you're making it seem. I see types like you in the gym all the time, and they usually give up when they lose nothing. But the fact is, just fix your diet a little. Decrease the amount of simple carbs you take in, especially through stuff that you could easily get complex versions of (ie get better bread. Look for a bread called Ezekiel 4:9, it's in the freezer section. Never leave it out, it molds in a day or two, leave it in the fridge and take out two pieces 30 minutes before you need it). Also cut out empty calorie drinks. I consider most liquids with calories to be empty calories, so try to only drink water or sometimes diet drinks. Start having an idea of how many calories you take in every day, too. Go on Google and type in "bmr calculator" and find out how much you burn, subtract 500 from it, and eat around that many calories every day. Of course, don't go crazy over it, or you might develop an ED. Do any kind of cardio exercise you can for at least 45 minutes for 4-5 times a week at least. You can try HIIT, though in the grand scheme of things, it's not much different from a little longer LISS.

Other than that, 2 months of fat loss could easily be 16lbs or possibly 24lbs depending how hard you work.

At 150lbs you should cut calories down to about 1400-1500 a day, mostly from protein such as chicken, cottage cheese, etc. Healthy vegetables next up, broccoli, carrots, etc. Avoid carbs, especially after 5pm.

Exercise 5 days a week. If all you do is run/jog, run/jog for 45 minutes.

I would recommend getting some weights or joining a gym, but if you cant I'd say get a jump rope at least.

Crunches 4x15
Push Ups 4x10
Jumping Jacks 3x25
Box Jumps 3x15
Jogging x30minutes

Do that 5 days a week. I'd say do it:

Wow, thanks for all the input anons! I had to run to the store and I figured this thread would be dead by the time I got back.

All this feedback is wonderful. I guess I'll plan to start running 3 times a week and I'll try that HIIT thing the other 2 days. Weekends I'll probably get some activity at the beach and what not. And I'll try to buy some freeweights to make my muscles stronger since I practically have none, heh. Though after I reach my goal weight I'll probably cut down to excersizing 2-3 times a week to stay there.

I looked up my BMR and it's 1528 so I should eat 200-500 less than that? I'm not even sure how many calories I intake currently. Usually for breakfast I'll eat one of the following with a glass of orange juice:
serving size bowl of cereal with watered down milk[I don't really like milk]; slices of cheddar cheese; a corn muffin; french toast[only on saturdays if I feel like cooking], or an egg and slice of toast.
For lunch I'll generally have one of the above or I'll have:
cucumber slices with soy sauce; vegetable soup; grilled cheese; handful of cashews and some deli-meat; or whatever I can find in the fridge.
Dinner generally consists of a meat, a vegetable, and a pasta or rice, depending what's on sale at the store. I don't cook things in tons of fat. I hate salad but I also hate fast food so I don't eat either. When I snack on something it's usually popcorn or chips. I don't really like water and drink tons of arizona green tea, which is probably terrible for me. I guess I'll cut out the green tea and the snacking? But I'm not sure if I should take anything else out of my diet.

So I suggest that you do begin running like you mentioned, anything over 30 minutes is good (pace yourself damnit) eat more fruits and vegetables, and cut a lot of the sugar out of your diet. You should do some Hindu squats, and weights aren't too expensive. Pick up some ten pounders.
Don't necessarily cut down on what you eat, but just eat healthier things. Less dairy, moar protein, fruits, and veggies. Your tastebuds will get used to eating things like spinach and broccoli and other things you might not like, so after a while you'll love them.

Op, you should maintain your body weight, or alternatively lose the scale altogether.
Begin by doing 30-45 mins cardio 3 times a week, preferably before breakfast. Make sure you eat within 30 mins after your cardio.
On non cardio days, do weight training. You are a girl so I PROMISE PROMISE you won't get freaky huge. You need to do this to get that tight toned body. No weights, all cardio means you'll end up looking like a skinny Asian 13-y.o. boy.
Do a weight training circuit (find some on bodybuilding.com esp. for women) 3x per week.
To lose the fat though, the only way is clean eating. Pick up a copy of Oxygen magazine to learn how. Basically, no more sugar, white flour, alcohol, fast food, salad dressing, etc. etc.
This is the commitment it takes to look amazing. But it's worth it!

you'd have to calorie cut, do moar cardio, & atleast have a 30 minute work out every other day. drinking tons of water halps, too. try focusing on the parts of your body that you want to build up muscle in more.
