My elliptical says I burned 800 calories.

How accurate is this?

Not OP here, but I am similarly curious.

When I do an elliptical I usually do 30 minutes of cardio, keep my HR at about 170 and burn about 300 calories. I weigh 185-190, and I average 6-7mph while running.

Is this normal?

800 calories, very likely.
800 kilocalories, very unlikely.

Normal is a variation of your ability. I go for 45 mins, don't monitor heart rate (just go at about 6-7/10 effort) and weigh about 238lb. At the end of a 45 min session i apparantly burn approx 300-450 calories, not taking into the account of my weight.

Of course 800 calories burned is normal, problem is you gave us fuck all info.

A decent pace and with some resistance. Doing that for about 55 minutes. Heart rate was about 180.

Well I weigh 180 and ran a half marathon (13.1 miles) over 2 hours.

1,800 calories w00t!

Only thing is if your not trying to lose weight you gotta eat like Tim Russert at twinkie convention. LOL

And that's another thing, why is it that ellipticals have a retarded odometer?

After a solid hour on that thing, I get maybe 2.5 miles.

Because distance-wise, you're basically just moonwalking the whole time, except slower.

For about two weeks, I was able to get 1000 calories in 67 minutes (level 10 resistance at average of 70 RPM). I decided to go down to 45-50 minutes of cardio a day though, since I figured that I was probably screwing myself doing 67 minutes of cardio everyday.

level 10 resistance? jesus christ man I'd rather run through swamps and quick sand than put mine that high.
