I need help... Anonymous
Hi /fit/.

I am currently 18 years old. And weight 300+ pounds. Yes, THREE hundred pounds. I am so tired of trying to exercise and failing miserably at it every single time. I mean, I really tried. I got a Gym membership and tried to go every single day and run for about 30 minutes then lift some weights for about another 30 minutes, for about a month, and only ate small portions of meals 3 times a day. (rice, chicken, ect). No sodas or sugary drinks, but failed. I didn't lose more than 2 pounds in a full month. I seriously don't know what to do now. As I look at my self in the mirror, I just want to cry. I can't believe I let it get this bad. I don't look THAT bad with clothes on, but with my clothes off, I literally look like a monster. I'm just desperate at this point.

Help me out, /fit/. You are my last stand. What can I possibly do now? Do you have any diets that I could try that won't starve me to death? Or any Gym workout routines that someone my weight could do? (I can be at the gym up to 2 hours a day, everyday. Maybe 3 hours if needed.). I am willing to buy any healthy foods or do any routines that would give me hope.

Thank you so much for reading and I hope that one of the replies turn into my salvation.

Some stats about me:

Age: 18
Weight: 300~350
Height: 5'9"
Work Schedule: 6AM ~ 6PM.
Time to work out daily: 2 Hours.

We need pictures (without face shots). Seriously though first you need to do cardio. Because of your weight you should NOT RUN. DO NOT FUCKING RUN. You will irreversibly damage your knees. Instead use a bike or one of those stationary ones in a gym. Do some light weight lifting on the day you're not running

Food: eat 5 meals. That does not mean pig out 5 times a day. 5 small meals
Tips
1) NO FUCKIGN CANDY
2) NO CHIPS
3) NO SODA
4) WATER ONLY. LOVE THE WATER (YOU ARE MADE UP MOSTLY OF WATER). Only think you'll be drinking from now on is water.

Vegetables, fruits, lean means (be it fish, chiken breast, steak) in SMALL PROPORTIONS. When you are not eating a small meat only eat fruit as a snack (this will suck s you're used to eating tasty crap).

If you're willing to be healthy again you will have to sacrifice most of good tasting shit. It's the rule and there's no way around it. You will have cheats days once you loose the pounds but those will be minimal.

Now post pics and post progress pics so we know you're not a troll that I just wasted 5 minutes typing this out.

first off don't look to /fit/ to tell you what to do. You have to do shit yourself. Ask trusted health professionals i.e. doctors, seasoned personal trainers etc. Don't be so emotional about it. Decide your going to do something about it and do it, if it doesn't work at first try different variables until it does.

Mouth-watering /fit/ pasta:

If you can't get access to real weights: http://trainforstrength.com/workout1.shtml

If you can get access to real weights (aka. a barbell with a bench and a squat rack): http://forum.dutchbodybuilding.com/f141/mark-rippetoes-starting-strength-routine-63770/

For cardiovascular health, google HIIT. If you think you can handle it, look up Tabata intervals too. This will place your physical endurance for above the general populace's and wreck fat like nothing else.

Alternate between lifting and cardio, doing one every other day, and the other on the other days, with a day of rest. This mean three days a week you lift and three days a week you do cardio.

^^^ Live by this.

---

I also recommend the not actually running for now, for the reasons already stated. As for food, as long as you don't stuff your throat with cookies and shit like an idiot, you don't have to eat food that tastes like crap.

In the off chance you know how to count calories, NEVER go under 2000. Food stuffs base nutrition percentages off a 2000 calorie diet for a reason. You should be able to burn 2000 calories a day just by sitting on your ass. Eating less than this will only slow fat loss since your body will enter an emergency "oh fuck I'm dying" mode and slow your metabolism to a crawl, thus negating the lower calorie intake.

The main aspect that will help you lose weight is the exercise. Diet is a factor, but as long as you eat healthy in general (follow the link in the pasta), you need to really work when you exercise.

Are you sure about this? I've always thought that you should always eat LESS than 2000 calories. But can you really lose 2000 Calories by just sitting down doing nothing?

Depends. Eat over 2000 calories and you'll burn around 2000 calories no matter what. Eat under 2000 and GOD DAMN I already explained this shit in my previous post.

while you are correct about the body going into the "oh fuck I'm dying" mode w/ less than 2000 calories, thats what the purpose of working out is. while you're body would naturally look to use less energy, when you work out it will negate this mode and result in burning more calories, assuming the workout is enough to actually do anything. the key is to eat enough calories and not become anorexic. if you ever eat <1200 calories then thats heading into dangerous territory (unless you're a midget). the exact numbers are different for each and every person and are just general guidelines not to be taken literally. all in all it all comes down to the workout.

Alright OP, me and this guy>>456312are gonna help you.

I was in a similar predicament to yours in April. I flunked out of college because of depression and drug use, and I had swelled to 365 at the highest recorded weight. Then I snapped. I took the money that was going to college and I got a gym membership. Now, you're not going to be a small guy. Ever. at 5'8" 300+, you're always gonna be (by most standards) overweight. But that doesn't mean you can't weigh in at 230 and be at 6-10% body fat.

First and foremost: CUT THE FUCKING SODA.
I cut out soda and within two weeks, dropped 15 fucking pounds.

Second, HIIT. High Intensity Interval Training. You're fat like I was, so your muscles are already strong as fuck from hauling your fat ass around, but your joints aren't. So as the earlier poster said, no running this early in the game. You want to do basic exercises, just with a lower weight at a higher speed, like, the only rest should be how long it takes to get to the next exercise.

Third, you're gonna eat like a slave for a while. DO NOT starve yourself. You want at least 5-6 meals a day at approx 400 calories each. Allow yourself a cheat day each week to keep your body from going into starvation mode and start storing fat. For example, my cheat day is sunday. I rest from my workouts one day a week and eat almost what I damn well please, now granted, this doesn't mean go fucking insane, try and keep it around 2500 calories on cheat day. No more than 3000, cause god damn.

Follow these instructions, and keep checking here and youtube for new workouts and exercises.

P.S. I've been doing this since april and I'm down to 295. and remember OP, it's going to take 3 times as long to take the weight of than it took to put on.

best way to lose weight, hands-down is to work on your metabolism. eat much smaller portions much less often. 5 small meals a day is the best route, and you only need to work out 3 times a week if your workouts are good ones, you should be sore when you're done but not so sore that you miss your next work out. you want to focus on building muscle and not doing so much cardio because your muscles will burn calories for you while you're not exercising, cardio will burn calories in the form of carbohydrates and protein before it burns fat.

the best way to plan your workouts is to see a trainer, they probably have them at your gym and will give you free advice to get you started on a regimen.

to make it easier to follow the diet advice:

- add spices to your food (except salt). they have vitamins and minerals and usually 0 calories or close to it. black pepper, tumeric, cayene pepper, oregano, cinnamon, go nuts.

- save a glass bottle for water. keep it in the fridge 24/7. put a little lemon juice in the water so the water tastes better and bacteria doesn't grow

- cook your food. bake/boil/steam no frying. bake apple slices in the toaster over. stir-fry spinach with water, garlic, onions, and mushrooms. hard boil eggs and keep in the fridge. cooked food is easier to eat and digest and tastes better.

- have a cheat day where you can eat whatever. this will help you maintain willpower for 6 days until the next cheat day, rather than the rest of your life. make sure other people know your diet schedule so they don't try to give you food on your non-cheat day. you may find your appetite is smaller than your desire to eat on cheat day, that's normal.

- train for ability, not to get slimmer. if you eat an atkins diet, you'll get thinner, but only so much. your body shape is genetic and not practical to change, you're stuck with it. i've seen a marathon runner with your build and he had perfectly good finishing times! he said he ran everyday but he never got any slimmer. but he was totally fit.

have someone calculate your body fat percentage and your weight. do the math: how many lbs of your body weight is fatty tissue? that's # of lbs your have to lose to hit 0% body fat, which won't happen. 5-10% is good. figure how many lbs you have to lose to hit 10% body fat. now you have a realistic goal.

as you gain strength, you'll gain lbs because muscle tissue is heavy. so don't freak out or get discouraged.

Actually, I'm alot like the op.

I'm 6'1'' and about 309lbs.
I have absolutely no motivation besides to see my own fat ass thin.

How did I become fat? I dont fucking know, But I can resist the temptations of food and my body has a of worked with me in the past whenever Ive dieted.

Do you guys have any ideas for me? Motivation and exercise are my two biggest problems. I don't have a gym membership but I could probably acquire some exercise equipment as long as it was reasonable.
>> Anonymous
Op, there are a few things to consider when you're in a predicament such as yours. It will save you a lot of time, and a lot of pain due to results that are lackluster.

First and foremost realize the weight of your situation. I think you are beginning to see it, but realize what could be in store for you in the future if you give up. This is serious. Realize this. Your life will be seriously cut short if you do not get this weight off.

Find an exercise you love. Some guys absolutely love lifting weights, some like swimming, some like cycling. I'm the latter. If you can find something that motivates you because you enjoy it, it makes all the difference.

I mentioned cycling as a method of exercise before, as did a few anon. Seriously consider it. I found it to be a lot more entertaining than running, and a viable form to get the weight off. Keep your cadence up ( Be in a gear where you have a pedal stroke of 60 Rpm or higher, or you risk knee damage)

Eat healthy. You don't need an anon telling you what to eat. You know what's good for yourself. Some people say that cheat days work, I'm a believer in them. Eventually you become disgusted by what you used to eat. You realize it is the antithesis of your goals.

No Soda. If you are seriously addicted to caffeine, drink coffee, or teas. A good way for me to get over major caffeine addiction caused mainly by soda, was to drink Snapple White Tea. It's low in calories for a bottled tea drink. This is helpful if you're one of those people that absolutely needs flavored drinks. If not, water.

Good luck Op and Godspeed.

http://health.yahoo.com/weightloss-motivation/100-smartest-diet-tips-ever/prevention--19984.html

Take a look there OP.

I've been on a diet for just under a month, as well as going to the gym, and so far I've lost about 3 pounds. It's not super fast progress, but it's healthy progress and I can notice the difference already when I look in the mirror.

What I'm doing:

- I go to the gym 6 days a week. I do 30 mins cardio, then weights. I also walk to and back from the gym, which isn't the shortest of journeys.

- I've been treating water like a religion. Fuck that stuff is great. I mean, I drank it before, but not as much. Now I don't touch Coke/Sprite/Fanta (even though I used to drink Zero versions, but w/e).

- Been eating more fruit and vegetables. It's obvious why - they're extremely good for you and have virtually no calories.

- Been eating chicken and a bit of cheese for protein - no bread.

- One meal a week, I cheat - a burger and chips, chocolate, pizza or whatever I feel like. But just ONE MEAL a week I cheat, not a whole day, and even then it's nothing xbox hueg.

- Finally, I have a goal - an outcome, and whenever I feel lacking motivation wise I just put it in my head and FORCE myself to go on. My personal goal is - as well as basic increased stamina and fitness - to look fuck awesome in a tuxedo I'm going to wear in June to a prom. Don't think when June rolls around and I'm (hopefully) at my goal I'll stop exercising or eating right, I'm going to carry it on. You need to look forward to something like that OP - imagine looking in the mirror and seeing yourself like the kid in that pic (hopefully without that stupid fucking piercing).

Hey OP, I'm in pretty much exactly the same situation as you (296Ibs, 5'10", and I've already lost around 20Ibs in the last 2 months), which I'm fairly happy about, but I'm stepping it up a little now. I find a good motivation whenever you feel like fucking things up, is to say to yourself "Hey bitch, do you really wanna keep your v-card until your mid thirties, and miss out on all the hot jail bait?". That most certainly works for me, I don't know about you as you might not even be a virgin, but considering you're still fairly young, and the fact it's a lot harder for fatties to get laid in general, and with the low self-esteem that tends to come along with it, I'll just assume you are.

In terms of my weight loss, I have't actually counted calories as such, I've just cut all the blatently awful food, such as: soda, pork, processed meat, sugary snacks, chips, cheese and horse shit. That with 1 hour of cardio per day as worked well so far.

But yeah, good luck with your weight loss, I'd be happy to trade AIMs with you if you'd like some encouragement from someone in a similar situation such as yourself. Good luck.

Hey there OP, do not get discouraged. I'm going through the same shit you are. I understand that my weight gain didn't happen over night, so the weight loss isn't going to be either.

I honestly do not bother with a scale or weighing myself. Just look in the mirror, you are not looking for numerical results, what you want is visible results.

2 pounds loss may discourage you but do not let it. While you have been burning fat, you have also been building up muscles. Muscles weighs more than fat does.

Music helps so much, I can't exercise without it, it just lest you tune out and go on auto pilot.

If it's possible, try to avoid just sitting around and doing nothing when your done at the gym. Go out of a walk, hell just walk around your local mall or something, anything as long as you staying a bit more active.

The most important advice I can give is this. This is not a momentary spur of the moment thing. It has to be a "Life style" change. You have to find a method of exercise and diet you can do for the rest of your life. You can't stop when your reach your goals and expect the results to remain. There is no finish line.

Keep going, stay strong and have faith in yourself. Most of all enjoy what you are doing.

Do stronglifts 5x5 if you have the material or access to the material. Its simpler than rippetoes and easier to get into. I would still add cardio, 3-5 mile jogs, 3 mornings a week plus the lifting is enough. You could do some sprints and plyometrics instead of one day of jogging if you want.
It's pretty easy actually. Alot of the time, when I'm in a relationship, I jump up ten to fifteen kilos. When summer comes round, I just get rid of it.
If you aren't all that interested in looking like a studly fucking god, you really don't need to put in much effort.
Start off walking, work up to jogging 3-5 miles 5 mornings a week. Also do push ups, pull ups, sit ups and dips (if you got somewhere to do dips). Look up the PT pyramid on google, that will give you an easy way in. Again, if you can, get an oly olympic bar, and 2 - 3 afternoons on top of this routine of oly style lifts, like clean and push press, snatch, or, better, if you have a bench and squat rack, or can get to them, just do deadlifts, squats and bench's.
Its really pretty simple.
But heres the kicker.
Eat fucking right.
You don't have to fucking count calories, or split up your macronutrients blah blah blah, especially if your exercising alot. 3 square healthy fucking meals. You know, fucking wholemeal toast and eggs for breakfast. Some fruit and yoghurt and nuts and shit for lunch. Some fucking wholemeal masta and salad and steak, or whatnot for dinner. Simple.
No soft drinks. No juices. Just water. its all you need.
No chocolate, mcdonalds etc. Just normal fucking food. Don't be a pig.
Try a multivitamin too.

I don't know about America, but here in the Netherlands kids are educated about the dangers of unhealthy foods in elementary school. Children know very well at a very young age that fruit and vegetables are good for them and mcDonalds, cola and candy are unhealthy and could make them fat.

Even If thats not the case in the US a 10/11 year old would know for sure.

I don't think so.

The society doesn't know whats healthy. Everyone is eating white bread and thinking it's good for them and that fat is something you should not eat at all. Carbs are supposed to be the best thing ever.

Hey, op. Just start slowly. Begin by eating healthy. Always have a breakfast(the most important meal of the day), eat fruits, eat your vegetables, drink water instead of soda etc. Stay away from deep fried foods, sugar is totally forbidden(and anything that include it), pizzas etc.

Dont get caught by fad diets(atkins etc)

You dont need to go to the gym, just focus on diet and just take 30-40 minutes walk each day to start with. Do that for 2-3 months. Then go to the gym if you feel like it. But you should be able to see some good results by then. The diet is the most important thing here, but note that going to the gym is not necessary.

Write everything down that you eat so you can see and keep track of what you are eating.

Good luck to you good sir, and remember; start slowly but still, keep going.

I gained weight when I broke my leg. I couldn't exercise for about 4 months. Then I was in an accident which messed up my leg again and almost tore the ligament in my ankle. I couldn't walk for 3 weeks, and then I couldn't walk without crutches (let alone run) for another 4 months. So 8 months without being able to really exercise can take it's toll. Both these incidents were out of my control.

Exactly what I was talking about. Thanks!

>the most important meal of the day

Hello there Kellog's
fuck you

sincerely, an unsatisfied customer

But seriously... no such thing as "the most important meal of the day" The most important meal is the one you get the most macronutrients from. But every calorie is as important as all the others.

err, no. It IS the most important meal. You have been fasting all night, so getting a healthy breakfast is imperative. And there have been so many studies that indicate that those who eat breakfast are in better condition than those who dont, But notice that I said "indicate".

Also eating breakfast makes you less hungry during the rest of the day. So it reduces the munchies too.

Skipping breakfast is bad for those who want to gain muscle and for those who want to loose weight.

When you wake up you usually haven't eaten for 8-10 hours, so it's actually pretty important you have a big, complete breakfast.

for those who want to drop weight by boosting their metabolism? sure.

I usually can't down a proper breakfast and most of the time I don't even get hungry before afternoon so I do what my body tells me to do. Of course, if I'm doing a morning workout I eat a fuckton after that but I never feel weak in the morning morning workouts despite not eating.

I thought that breakfast was important because it kicks you out of the night long fast, and therefore if you get a big balanced one it makes managing what you eat the rest of the day easier. Plus you need energy to, you know, function.

I broke my knee in a motorcycle accident, I was unable to work or exercise for about 14 months, I had 2 months of physio in the first 6 months, then surgery, 6 months of being a cripple and 2 more months of physio. All the while unable to run/bear weight on my left leg, guess what? I didn't become a fucking hambeast. In fact I kept the same weight, lost a little bit as my leg muscles were wasting away and so on. I'm not some super buff fag, just a fit healthy guy at a normal weight and I stayed at it despite being an invalid, don't blame a bad leg for your inability to do other forms of exercise and control your candy shoveling fatflaps you call hands.
Genetics can make some difference, your upbringing can also give you a bad start, but once you are over the age of 14 if you aren't losing weight or at a healthy weight you have no space to complain and cry about how hard it is being fat, it's no ones fault but your own, cry to yourself or do something about it, I don't care which but quit blaming everything and everyone else for your personal failure you pig disgusting fatties.

You gotta do at least 45 min of cardio a day more if you can, get a personal trainer to help you lift right and be patient, it takes a long ass time for that shit to melt off of you.

By cardio, you mean stuff like bicycle since I can't jog?
>> Anonymous
If you do your cardio at home and have a TV handy, 45 minutes is two episodes of an anime, or a TV show if you like. Put all those box sets you bought to good use.
