Hey /fit/, I'm here from /o/ and /p/.

I'm here to ask a bit of advice. I recently passed the 22 mark, and it looks like my teenage metabolism days are finally over, as I've gained a bit of weight, with a gut to go with it. It's really bugging me, although I'm not exactly fat overall. Right now, I'm 155 and 5'9" or so.

All I really want to do is get rid of the gut and flatten my chest out a bit. I've also been feeling a little bit "creaky" lately, with my joints less flexible and myself having less stamina than I used to. So, what does /fit/ recommend for a relatively minor "getting in shape"?

I'm in a line of work where I have a lot of free days, but I also have periods where I have to work odd hours with heavy schedules, which has lead me to a pretty heavy caffeine habit (Especially energy drinks...), and to eating some unhealthy food because of time constraints.

I've started shaping my diet up quite a bit, cutting back on the sugar/caffeine, and at least choosing to eat healthier fast food (Subway and other sandwich places, better quality burgers, or rice balls/etc when I'm near a Japanese supermarket/convenience store) when it's the only option, as well as preparing / getting better food when I'm not under time pressure. I've also been trying to eat less - I've had a bad habit of wanting to try EVERYTHING at a restaurant, and therefore ordering some huge combo thing and feeling like I HAVE to stuff myself.

What I could really use some help with is the exercise end of things. I don't lack motivation, and I've been doing some jogging and trying to remember some of the stuff we did back in High School Gym years ago, but I'm not sure exactly what to do. What can /fit/ recommend?

(First relevant image I could find, didn't exactly want to post my hairy gut on 4chan.)

i recommend that you pick up a muscle and fitness mag, most of them have more info than you can even handle and they come with workout programs and are very easy to follow with exact reps, sets, and rest periods. when i got out of highschool i was 120 pounds then after about a year of reading the mag and following it i gained about 35 pounds. i also recommend u go to gym and dont work at home.

Oh, they'll actually have basic stuff in there?

I somehow figured they'd be like a Photography magazine, where it's just reviews of the newest gear, articles on new techniques, and stuff with interviews of famous athletes or something.

I'll check it out next time I'm at the bookstore, then.

ya the magazine your talking about is flex, that one is all about bodybuilders and competitions. muscle and fitness is all about how to work out, what to eat, and what supplements to take. also you should go on youtube to see the correct way to do the exercises, form is the most important when it comes to working out.
