I was going to take it to /b/, but I figured it better be suited here. Why? Because /b/'s trolling is just nonsense. /fit/'s truth is what will really open their eyes. For a little rage:
"does anyone else eat all of their calories at one time of day...cause i know spreading it out would be better....but i like hate eating during the day....i am really busy and then i just have whatever i planned at night....is this bad...or would i lose more if i spread it out...not sure if it matters since cals are usually cals....but i just hate eating throughout the day....just curious if anyone was the same..."

Because a mental disorder is something you can help.

go do some push ups or squatz or whatever the fuck you do instead of making fun or anorexic people. that's pretty pathetic.

Yes, it is actually. If I had a daughter and I noticed she was only eating small small portions of food and weighed 90 lbs, I could tell something was up and do everything in my power to help her. Not so much the mental disorder issue, just how they obviously don't know how health works. Especially when it's a 13 year old girl being encouraged by adults to not eat, or restrict herself to 200 a day. I know it sound slike I'm bawwing, but I used to be bulimic. When I was 100 lbs I would look in the mirror and think how fat I was. My mom took noticed and actually helped me. That's enough yammering for me though.

I believe he meant "help yourself"
In which case, he was right, it's stupid to blame someone for their own mental disorder.

Also, I'm glad to hear that you'd know how to act.

I'm glad recovery is so easy for you.

But forcing an eating disordered person to eat is in no way going to fix it. If anything, it's going to make them even more miserable.

I'm still getting over anorexia but I think in some way making them eat and bringing to a normal weight might help them mentally because they aren't so deprived of nutrients and are able to think more clearly.

My .02

But, its much more than that, I agree.

It actually wasn't that easy it all, it was a long, and to tell the truth, incredibly frightening recovery. My mom didn't say anything at first, I guess she didn't know what to do/didn't want to believe it. She finally confronted me, I said I'd stop but I didn't, eventually ended up in the hospital. After visiting hours, I would walk around in circles and pace in my room for hours just to work off anything I ate that day. I try hard to educate young girls now at highschools how to deal though.
If I went to that board, it wouldn't be to troll, but maybe help them out. I doubt they'd listen though..

It's pathetic because it's a community encouraging people to be anorexic.
"Good luck getting to your weight goal!" Is the standard response in that community. They are basically saying to each other, "Good luck starving yourself! Hope you don't die before you loose twenty pounds."

In my defense, I recognize the seriousness of BED too :\

100% agree. It was probably on TLC or some shit, but they did a special on that. A lot of emotional eaters. Girl would hide candy in her closet and eat like 14 candy bars when something bad happened.

>Why do we put more effort into "fixing" those who eat too little, than those who eat too much?

We don't. Have a look at the trillion dollar fitness industry and the constant gimmick pills and equipment you see advertised after midnight. The thing is, it's just more common for an ana to become 75 pounds and be in dire need of care than it is for an overeater to become 600+ pounds and in dire need of care. The thing with ana/bulimia is that you lose weight extremely fast, whereas with binge eating it takes at least a couple of years, though I've heard of some people who gain over 150 pounds per year. It honestly takes a while to put on enough weight to become morbidly obese and the body is more resilient to weight gain than weight loss in terms of maintaining health.

All of that aside, they're both pretty serious conditions, but first must be properly diagnosed. Like I said, someone doesn't have a compulsive overeating disorder if all they do is eat POORLY, but in typical portions, just like someone isn't ana if all they did was crash diet for a month or two.

The big problem is that ignorant people think "will power" can fix anything, yet they've never been in such severe situations such as food/starvation addiction, nicotine addiction, hard drug addiction, self-injury addiction, etc. These things take fucking years and a lot of therapy to fully conquer, but they're a joke to the little upper middle class suburban white kids who populate most of the Internet and have no life experience outside of a 50 mile radius of their home town. And, yes, it makes me rage, because I know how hard my best friend struggles with beating her overeating disorder...she abuses food like alcoholics abuse whiskey or beer. Watched her sit in tears and eat 43 cup cakes in one sitting out of 60 that she bought, and she ate the other 17 an hour later.

I wasn't really saying you, specifically, didn't understand other forms of addiction or mental disorders. Just that /fit/ in general like to select certain things that they consider serious, while ignoring other similar problems.

I'm sorry to hear your friend hurts that way. It's really sad to hear that she's having trouble getting in control of it. I don't have an eating disorder of an sort myself, and never have because my mom's a dietician, but I can only imagine how horrible it must feel, like you're never going to be good enough. The most you can do is help her and encourage her to get better, in my experiences when I'm down or having trouble, having a friend to motivate me always works best.
