Hello /fit/, I've been practicing a lot of parkour lately (3 months) and I was wondering if any of you could tell me any good advice to stay in shape for it.

I mostly do a lot of pull/chin-ups and pushups but not much else. I do as many pull-ups as I can, while I add 1 pushup every day (my upper body strength sucks). My abs and legs are in excellent shape (years of cycling/sprinting/hindu squats + almost daily landing from 7+ feet) so there's no problem for them. Abs are good too.

Bottom line, I need suggestions for upper body exercises I can do. And I'm a newfag to a lot of exercise terminology, so my apologies in advance.

Thanks.

Wouldn't the practice of parkour be enough exercise for parkour as it is?

Otherwise, I will say that I felt more of a deltoid and bicep burn climbing trees than I ever did with weights.

Unless parkour means jumping onto a table to each a philly cheese steak

What exactly defines parkour capability? It seems like there's a pretty blurred line between traceur and skipping around like it's recess.

Parkour ain't that bad, you start small fry and not off buildings. That's what I do anyway, and I've suffered minimal damage.

I think what constitutes parkour capability is more strength and shit, in order to actually be able to move easily after jumping/climbing. I got the running/jumping part down but I need the arm strength to get my ass up and over shit faster.

So would you say "jumping and pulling up by your fingers to a ledge within a foot higher than your vertical reach, then doing a pull-up and swinging a leg up to that height to get the rest of your leverage up" is a good start?

squat, clean, c&j sprints and Olympic style good mornings. srsly, hit the gym and hit it heavy, if you can find someone to coach you on weight technique go for it. In addition, look up a local community in your area and see if there are some sort of open training sessions you can join in on. Learning from others is generally a much better idea than just going at it.

Last, don't be a fucking twat, do not jump off shit you can't jump onto in the start, you
1) are not strong enough
2) Don't have the technique.
Good luck

The muscle-up in particular would be a good exercise for Parkour.

muscle ups are good, comes a point where further strength development through them becomes a problem but by then your climb up will be good enough anyway.
