OJ? Milk? Anonymous
>OJ
I have been drinking one glass of OJ in the morning.
That serving has 25g of sugars. Although they are natural fruit sugars it is the equivalent of one tbsp of sugar.
Is this bad?

>Milk
what is your take on milk? if it is skim can I drink as much as I want? what about 2%? will I get the same thing outta skim as I would homo milk?

what no ideas guys?

milk has alot of sugars to, but is also high in protein. I usaully mix nonfat milk or 2% with my protein after a workout when your body will use the sugar right away. orange juice is just sugar and really doesn't provide much more than that.

i don't drink fruit juices because there is shit loads of carbs

milk is good if you can find grassfed whole milk, otherwise you're wasting your money on skim, 2% whatever because they take away all the nutrients

> * - OJ - MILK
calories - 120 - 130
fat - 0g - 5g
carb - 28g - 13g
sugar - 25g - 12g
protein - 2g - 8g
vit C - 160% - 4%

so;
OJ not at all? or only after workout?

Milk for breakfast? after workout? anytime?

nothing wrong with drinking your fruits, yo! there could be a lot more worse things you could be drinking, and them baddd sugars.
i drink tropicana's 100% orange juice, not from concentrate, just freshly squeezed oranges. no water added either, good source of potassium/folate/vit c/etc etc

I was thinking the same
>nothing wrong with drinking your fruits,
>could be a lot more worse.... them baddd sugars
I must go cheap. Minute Maid 100% OJ with extra pulp.

my only bad problem is sometimes I just chug from the container, ending up drinking too much. I should just have water then.

I'm fucking addicted to milk, I get through 2 pints of semi-skimmed a day minimum.

The reason you shouldn't drink juice if you are losing weight is because of the amount of sugars it has. Even though it may be 100% squeezed (even if you squeezed it yourself) it still is pretty empty calories. If you've ever squeezed your own juice, you'd know that it takes 2-4 oranges (good size ones, too) to make a full glass of orange juice. You usually wouldn't eat that many oranges in one sitting...unless you had scurvy. Just have an orange.

Milk, I like that though. Drink at least one glass everyday.

Drinking too much milk gave me haemorrhoids. True story

yes juice has a lot of sugars in it. I was tring to lose weight a while back and stopped pop but not juice and turns out just as bad. Since then I have turned to mostly drinking water and water. I have a coffee or two in the AM w/o sugar as well as one glass of OJ.

So straight OJ question;
Is one glass of OJ in the morning too much?

also can anyone point to a resource that says OJ is bad sugar or empty calories?

the sugar in fruits and thus juices is the same as tablesugar. just as many calories and it spikes your insulin just the same

It really depends what you eat through out the day.
1 glass of OJ a day won't hurt you, but I know I can sure as hell find a better way to get my servings of fruit. 1 glass is about 2-4 servings of fruit. Too much for an 8-16 oz drink.

Wrong. Well, partly wrong, anyways.
There isn't any real bad reason to drink 100% fruit juice. The only real reason I could find is that because It takes quite a bit of oranges to make about a 12-20 oz. drink. I know quite a few people don't use a measuring cup; This means your drink has about 2-4 servings of fruit or more - Which can be bad because of the possible sugar "overload". Also, I can find better ways to enjoy my fruits.

You also say that even though it can be "!00% squeezed", meaning natural, straight from the orange itself, it is still "pretty 'empty calories'" - Which is almost completely wrong. The "empty calorie" slang is only applied to foods with a poor nutritional profile. Last I remember, oranges do not have a poor nutrition profile. They are very nutritious, sugary, yes, but far from being "empty calories".

If you restrict your servings to about 4-8 oz per, then it's "okay". As long as it's pure orange juice - No additives or artificial flavors.

Fructose and Sucrose are metabolized differently in the bloodstream. Sure, they share similar consequences if you over consume them, but saying refined tables sugars are the same as natural fruit sugars is just absurd.

If you're working out correctly, it shouldn't matter.

You still need some sugars in your diet..
