If you do say 50-80 curls of 10 pound weights, does that do anything strength-wise?

Yep. Strength training is all about lifting heavy, and low reps.

What it WILL do is increase your endurance. For that, try 3 sets of 30 reps each at low weight.

Do 5 reps of 80% of your maximum.

It will build just enough muscle to handle that small load, then stop adapting. This may be a "toned" look to you, but will show only when coupled with dieting to reveal that small bit of muscle..
