I know you guys talk a lot about physical fitness, but what about mental fitness?

I find it hard to remember anything, or even grasp complex concepts. Which really sucks for me, since it is really effecting my studies.

How can I, I guess, train my brain to be more efficient and be able to learn more? Since I am not stupid, I just have trouble learning anything new. And even if I do learn it, I will forget it soon after.

TL;DR how do I become smart and retain information?

Stupidity isn't even a complex concept.

Grasp complex concepts? If you are reading those from articles or (prolly) books, it might be your reading technique that is ineffective. If you have an ineffective way of reading and studying, you will have a hard time seeing the big picture of the material that you're reading, and whether or not it is even relevant for your task/question

I'm not stupid in the sense that I made it this far to college, but I have a hard time learning anything this complex, as in anything past basic high school level learning... (if that makes any sense)

I know that statement was a bit of an oxymoron, but still... I just find it hard to learn stuff now, and I give up quite easily. So I want to just find a way to be able to process things better so I can retain more information...

Yeah, now that I think about it, I barely study as it is. I find it very hard to concentrate, so I wind up doing something else... Any ideas on how to improve my concentration/focus when studying/reading?

Oh know(s), such a taboo subject.

Mental fitness and physical fitness are similar yet different concepts. They are like each other in the manner that to improve it takes hard work and dedication. They differ because mental fitness requires much more time and effort than physical fitness. It is much harder to concentrate on a book or write a thesis and usually requires--obviously depending on things such as the persons skill level in that particular subject and how mentally fit they are--much more time than it takes to pump iron and show the women.

The brain is not fully understood, in fact what we do know is next to nothing.

It has been proven that omega-three fatty acids improve mental performance by facilitating the fabrication of myelin sheath on neurons. You can find such nutrient in fish oil (molecularly distilled is better for you), chicken, raw egg(if cooked, the protein denatures ergo destroyed), and flax.

If you really want to improve mental performance, you simply need to sit down and work thousands of problems in a multitude of subjects... Which is precisely what college does to you.

get a study room that has no tv radio or computer in it - free of distractions. helped me alot.

also learn how to learn. you could probably google some tutorials or whatever to help you.
we had a crashcourse in school so i dunno about that

not going to lie... OP just sounds like a normal dumb person.

but if you want to improve, try things until you find what works, then just do that.

You're stuped. What are you studying?

Go to a decent university library at a time when there aren't too many other students. Don't go to a Starbucks or whatever.
I don't even bother trying to do serious mental work at home anymore.

Try harder and concentrate. Make mindmaps and shit. That's what I do when I can't seem to understand what I'm reading and it works. Mind you, I think my problem is that I'm so much a lazy ass that I'm even too lazy to think most of the time, not that I'm stupid because I know I'm not. Heck, whenever I try, even with phenomenally little effort (my friends say my overall effort is a joke), things other people would tell you that its hard seems easy.

Eating better for one will dramatically help.

Caffeine and cigarettes. Both have been proven to increase memory and thinking. Snort adherol too does the same shit. Check the journals if you don't believe me

Not trolling its true.

you can try ginko baloba suppliments but i don't think it has been proven to make a difference.
