contrary to most posts on this board, i am looking to gain weight.
im 6'3" weigh 165 and before my surgeries i was >180.

i recently had two knee surgeries repairing my ACL and meniscus and after the first one i got really sick from the amnesia. after that i lost all my appetite (i used to have a huge one from running and doing sports.)

so in the past month i have lost about 15 lbs and people can notice this by just looking at me and i feel i am getting sickly thin. so my question for you is.. how can i start gaining weight and get my appetite back in a decent way (not just eating a shitload of junk)

Start with that, add 700-1000 calories, post results.

Do you have any more specific questions? I'm working on gaining weight and increasing my appetite too.

What I did to start out is keep a food diary to get a feel for my eating habits, and I read a lot to learn how to gain weight correctly. What I learned is that I need to eat a lot, AND (very important part) do some form of muscle building strength training, as well as eating HEALTHY food (you will be eating a lot more, so getting it as junk food will be bad in the long run, might as well stay skinny).

From now on read all nutrition labels and look up the nutrition information for food you don't have a label on. You'll gradually learn what foods you want to eat, and which ones you should avoid.

very informative post, thank you sir.

so according to this caloric reqs. ill need around 2800, so obviously ill be needing more to start gaining.

since my knee is still messed up, my only real source of exercise is from physical therapy and doing my leg stretches and lifts every day, it doesnt amount to much..

i think the idea of eating 5 small meals rather than three is good because its hard for me to eat a lot at one sitting.

i think ill start to keep a food diary and mark my weight every few days and post back with some results in a month or two.

thanks for your help.
