Howdy, /fit/.

A friend told me that I ought to stop drinking, because "having one beer is tantamount to losing a week's worth of working out".

Is this bullshit, /fit/? I'm in fairly decent shape (and getting a lot better; joining the Army with an Option 40 to get a shot at becoming a Ranger), and I've got a pretty high metabolism.

Does having a couple of beers each day really fuck me up that bad, despite all the working out I do?

I lose weight (not through vomiting)
I drank quite a bit the other day and lost 3 or 4 lbs the next day and still haven't gained it back. It ususally takes me at least a week to put the weight back on.

Weird, I came here to ask a nearly identical thread. I've started to workout again and in the process gave up all excesses for the past week..I haven't touched anything but water and milk.

But I just hit a full 2 miles in one jog and goddammit i wanna hit some jack daniels tonight.

I always drink TONS of water, I had a bad hangover the next day and drank like at least twice as much water as I usually drink. But for some reason when I drink I tend to eat less which might be why I still have no explanation for it though. This happens to me every time I get drunk I will lose at least 2 lbs.

Don't punish yourself.

I eat whole foods all throughout the week, then last Friday I went out to a club and had 4 pints and 5 vodka redbulls. I don't regret anything but the redbull.

You workout, then drink, and your body uses energy to detoxify itself instead of repairing muscle and burning fat. Goes against whatever you did in the gym. It also dehydrates you, and muscles need lots of water. Stop being a self hating alcoholic faggot and only drink once in a while. Replace alcohol addiction with fitness addiction.

On this subject I have a question, I worked out really hard and my biceps were really sore, and then I drank later that night. It took 3 days to recover (seems unusually long) did the Alcohol have something to do with that?

It depends on what you are "working out for"
If you are building muscle than heavy drinking will probably slow down muscle growth during the heavy drinking but is hardly going to "erase a whole week"

If you are trying to lose weight. Alcoholic beverages often have a few hundred calories in them. If you drink 12 beers then you could easily break 2000 calories just form the drinking. So it is going to hurt you in terms of weight loss.

Fortunately for you all foods in the civilized world have to list ingredients and nutritional information. Unless an ingredient is alcohol and then they don't have to tell you shit. Oh right. So you are fucked.

Drink in moderation. You'll live.

Roughly speaking a shot of liquor has about 100 calories. A light beer has around 110. An average lager has about 150(a budwiser/yuengling/whatever) and heavy beers like stouts/porters(A Guinness or whatever) have 200+. Craft beers are all over the place but are probably at least a 150.

A night of heavy drinking is easily the equivalent of an entire days worth of food. Factor it into your diet plan. It is delicious though.
