Sup /fit/,

Over the past few months, I've lost over 50 pounds (I started around 265 now I'm at 212... I'm about 5'7"-5'8"). I'm really proud of myself, but I'm still overweight and looking to lose more.

However that's not the point of this thread. I set a long-term goal for myself: finishing a full marathon. Hell, I'd try for the NYC marathon if I could manage to get in (I hear it's not easy to get in these days).

The thing is, I haven't run at all to lose any of the weight. I need to start running so I can train for this marathon that I want to be able to run within a few years. Do you think I'm too heavy to start running yet? I hear you can damage your knees if you're too heavy and try running. I think I can manage at the very least a half mile for now, but I'll see. I need some advice, /fit/!

what did you do instead of running?

advice: good shoes and proper technique.
If you must run, I'd educate myself on how to avoid knee damage. Get some literature and or advice from someone who knows.
Shoes only last a few hundred miles, make sure you check this.

Mostly stationary bike/one of those gazelle things that makes me feel like a homo using but it worked great. Also walking.

Thanks, I'll look into it.
