Hey /fit/. I don't ever post here, but I have a question for you all. I am about 5'11 and weight in at a pound or two shy of 200lbs.

I'm an average guy all around, and I've managed to curb my diet from letting me gain weight anymore, as I've realized I'm beginning to hit the overweight side of things. However, I'd like to tone down, my stomach specifically; it's more or less a personal wish for myself.

Here's the question (tl;dr skip here): If I do sit-ups/crunches every night starting a few hours before I go to sleep and do a good few sets up until I go to bed, along with some occasional cardio (2-3 times a week), can I expect to slim down and have a nice, tight stomach?

2 or 3 times a week? Lolno. Do an hour of jogging every morning, and do push-ups to exhaustion every night.

sorry op... the only way to tone down your gut is through cardio and diet...
to slim down in the ab area you need to lower you body fat percentage.
While doing ab exercises will make you abs more noticeable.. you wont be able to see them until you get rid of all that fat.

tldr

start doing alot more cardio... it will not only help you look better.. but it will make you feel better all around.
diet is a big issue too, if you care to discuss it reply.

Lol, thanks for trolling. Also, I actually just measured my height, and I guess I'm 6', so I'm only 15 pounds shy. Either way I don't look it quite yet, but I'm concious.

Cardio would be 2-3 times a week, sit-ups (and I guess push ups) would be every day, but if more is needed, than whatever.

I don't really want a 6-pack, I just want to be slimmer. Diet I have been working quite a bit on, I haven't put the numbers down on what I get daily, but I've cut out as much fast food as I can (I live on my own, though not an excuse), and have cut back on sodas. I don't desire to be muscular or anything, I'd just like to casually drop back into the 170-180 range, I kind of did overstate. However if I need to go for a jog more often than what I originally intended, so be it. I also didn't/don't expect this to happen overnight or even in the next month or so, I was thinking 3-5 months would be preferable. I'm a student in computer programming, however and quite frankly, maybe a jog is more of what I need, provided I can find the time.

If you are still eating the same, but doing some more exercise, you will lose some weight. The initially slight improvement in muscle mass will also consume more energy. After 6 weeks, you will notice some improvement.

The most pronounced part will be that you may enjoy the improvement and continue on to something more physically demanding.

I am kind of hoping for this. I just recently actually broke up with my girlfriend (who was long distance) so maybe those hours of phone calls will be put forth towards new goals.
