/fit/, I have learned that I shouldn't really try to run because I'm overweight, or I might fuck up my knees. I want to get a good amount of work done, and I been doing it for since the beginning of February, usually for 30-40 minutes. I don't think walking for that long will help much, as I probably will burn much less than what I have been burning. I have used an elliptical machine, but I don't own one, and I can't really go to a gym since it conflicts with my school schedule, and I just do my working out at home.

tl;dr what do I do to get my cardio workout?

About how much more work would you have to do on a bike to get the amount you'd get done with 30-40 minutes on a treadmill?

you'd have to pedal furiously for about the same amount of time.

You also need a pretty empty neighborhood to ride in unless you have a stationary, because stopping every block isn't exactly what you're goin' for.

even if you don't feel it you're probably still doing damage to your knees simply because of the pressure you're putting on them. you REALLY don't want to wear down the cartilage in your knees. if you do that, you're stuck with knee pain for the rest of your life

Not really sure if it is, but it probably is, as I see myself holding onto the bars on the side of the treadmill at times, and starts to hurt my arms and back (I assume I'm putting a good amount of my weight on them).

sounds terrible. God damn it, this sucks. I really don't know what to do, since biking doesn't seem like it will work according to what someone here said, and I don't have an elliptical machine, and I simply can't go to a gym.

why can't you go to a gym? also i don't think anybody is saying that biking won't work well, jus that it isn't quite as efficient as an elliptical. honestly any exercise you can get will help and biking isn't a bad choice

school conflicts, as well as other personal things that wouldn't give me the time to go.

HIIT. Give it a shot, for some reason it works best for fat burning.

i got one for my bike. you get the comfort and familiarity of using your own bike (i have two bikes and love them both). also, i keep it in a cabinet and huck it in front of the tv. crank your bike up to the highest gear and have at it for 45 minutes.

btw, this is my first time on this board and i think that it's a great idea. good job 4chan

Run anyway. On a tre4admill it's cushioned, and a decent pair of shoes will take away most of it. Just don't run very long - do a week of one minute, walk four, repeat ten times. Then a week of run 1.3, etc, iun addition to a regular workout. Jog at 9km an hour for ten minutes.

It'll burn the weight and allow you to get some cardio.

Look into Chirunning and the Pose Method They are running forms that seem to lessen impact. Both rely on forefoot or midfoot striking instead of heel to toe (which fucks up your knees).

I thought you were always supposed to run on your toes anyway though.

Most running shoes are designed for hitting heel-first.

On a related note, look up 'pose ice' on google video. That is the guy who invented Pose, running on an ice skating rink. It's wild, he isn't pushing off, just falling forward and getting his feet underneath him.
