Well... your metabolism doesn't get started until you have something to eat, so at least have something small after you wake up, even if you don't eat for the rest of the day.
Your metabolism might slow down, but you'd need to be drinking water for days before you went into starvation mode.
Very cold water, or ice cubes are good for speeding up the metabolism, the body has to work to warm your internal organs up again.
