Isotretinoin aka Accutane dose Anonymous
sup /fit/,

I'm on Isotretinoin at the moment. I am male and weight 60 kg. The dose is 3x 20 mg daily, which equals to 1 mg/kg/day.

I'm experiencing hair loss. It's not strong yet, but seems to be getting worse. I can't let myself lose my hair for numerous personal reasons.

I have found multiple studies indicating that a dose of 0.5 mg/kg/day would cut down the side effects tremendously but still work against my acne. However, since my pills are 20 mg each, that's not possible. I have considered going down to 0.66 mg/kg/day, which equals to 2x 20 mg/day.

Does anyone here with proper medical knowledge think this would make the treatment useless or hinder it in any way?

I would discuss this with my dermatologist, but she's a tad bit too conservative, and I can't afford going to a different doctor for a second opinion.

I dont know the reasoning behind your current dose, but I'm on only 10mg a day and even that more than enough for me so I might even tone it down to 10mg every other day.

A dose that is too low will NOT make the acne resistant like with antibiotics, so worst case scenario is your acne comes back a little but then you can increase the dose to what should just about work for you.

My doctor pointed me to advice and studies that said to lower the dose as much as possible and that 10mg/day is a common dose to start with and tends to work right away.

So by lowering the dose untill it just about seems to lose the battle against your acne and then slightly increasing it from there is a good way of finding that threshold where you get the desired results with the least side effects.

so you can even try taking one 20mg pill every other day.

Don't have a solution for your dosage, but you can talk to your doctor about treatment for hair loss. It sounds like It's in an early stage, and as long as you treat it quickly, all you need is a pill a day med. like Propecia. I did this for about two months (I started losing my hair and greying at 16-17 years old), and have had no problems ever since.

Cystic acne vulgaris. You probably only have mild acne.
