Even if crunches with shoulders touching the ground were better (which, I dont think they are) you are sacrificing your back, which is grinding unnaturally against the ground hundreds of times, for a arguably, marginally better workout.

Fuck that shit. Just make sure your abs stay tight and get blasted.
