TBH, learning to surf, you need to be in the water.
Just get in the water, find your center of balance while SITTING.
then, paddle after a wave.
you should see how you need to adjust your positioning so that you dont go nose first into the water, and so that you can still catch the wave.
It takes a while to find this balance so.
Usually, surfers in the water will be MORE than happy to help you out.
Also, make your standing one smooth motion.
Do NOT, WHATSOEVER, go to your knees before your feet.
When getting your balance right, however, its okay to ride a wave on your knees.
Just practice and get some tips from people in the water.
Good luck man.

if you really want, just buy an indo board, get the half-ball platform though, as it makes balancing on the board much more realistic.

Swim crawl every day, when on a board you have to match the speed of the wave wo catch it, it doesnt pick you up.

So work up to swimming crawl 500 meters at least without rest and then you can catch waves, once you catch waves you can start learning to surf..

Since you are 25 get a bigger board like a fun board, ask the locals though, where i live anything but a fun board is a waste of time unless you drive for 6 hours each way to a good beach.

Skate, to work or just about, it will help you find your balance.

Tag along with someone local, getting out by yourself sucks.
