There is no real way to make your hair grow faster except by constant trimming.
Hair length is determined partly by genetics, and partly by the strength of your hair follicles - your hair will not grow past a certain length, though this is different for most people. The longer your hair gets, the heavier it gets for your scalp, and hair growth is less encouraged.
Hair growth is also the first thing that cuts out in the event of malnutrition, stress, severe illness and whatnot and the body requires extra resources. (This is why most men love strong, vibrant hair: it's a sign of a woman's health and by extension, fertility) If you are healthy, you will grow thick, long strands of hair. If you are ill, it will grow thin and straggly, or fall out.
Also, the only part of your hair that's alive is at the roots - the rest of your head is DEAD DEAD DEAD keratin. "hair food products" work by staying on the hair strands and giving it a shiny coating to make it appear thicker and lusturous, but it's dead. Also, if you are planning to perm or dye your hair afterwards, hairdressers will recommend against using such products because the coating makes it difficult for perm solutions and hair dyes to work.
