Help me /fit/

Since this is a half health board, maybe someone in here could tell me wtf is happening to my eye.

I went to sleep last night after taking a Nyquil, cuz I've had a cough that won't go away, I think it might be whooping cough but not sure. Anyways, I woke up today, and looked in the mirror and saw my eye all red. (Pic is my eye.)

I took my contact out immediately, and it's not 3 and a half hours later and it still isn't any better.

Yes, I sleep in my contacts, and yes I wear them for way longer than I should. But this has never happened before. Usually, it'll start hurting after a while, and I'll take it out and it'll be fine in like an hour. But this time it doesn't hurt at all, it's just super red and won't go back to normal.

What's wrong?

I wear contacts as well, and I have had this happen before. Although I am not sure of the direct cause, I would place a bet on irritation/infection. I'd suggest washing your eyes out with water, or just let it heal on it's own. I did.

Then you probably have a corneal ulcer. NEVER EVER a good idea to sleep with your contacts on. I've done that once, and my eye looked like yours. Is is sensitive to the light? Eye waters easily? It's pretty serious because you can go legally blind like that.

After it happened to me once I ALWAYS took out my contacts before I go to bed or nap. Go see an eye doctor and he'll prescribe you something for it.

Really? That makes me feel a lot better. All my friends are like omg go to a doctor, but I'm too lazy to do that.

If it doesn't heal by tomorrow though I guess I will go.

That wiki pages says it's supposed to hurt a lot but mine doesn't hurt at all, and no I don't think it's sensitive to light either. It's not really watering that much either

Really, the only thing I've ever done is take my contacts out to let it remedy. If you wake up tomorrow and experience any burning or anything, I'd totally recommend going to see your doctor. Remember: This is a forum, not all information posted is accurate.

I'm a friend of the OP's and I notice he forgot to mention that "I wear them for way longer than I should" means that he wears them for months at a time and only takes them out when "they start to hurt".

..........

I have no reply to that.

Most likely an infection due to germs building up behind your contact lens. Leave the lenses out until the eye heals, and if you use disposables it's prob. best to discard the ones that were in when the infection started.

I think you might just be right, cuz I think i remember seeing something behind the contact when i took it out. I thought it was just sleep and didn't worry about it much.

Also if it makes a difference, I was sleeping on my right side, so gravity would have pulled wtvr is in my head down to that eye.

Well, I've been wearing contacts for like 8 or 9 years now, and I sleep in them, and only take them out when they start hurting.

So something like this has never happened to me, I never woke up with bloodshot eyes that don't hurt.

Anyways I went to an eye doctor in December. He was disappointed that I don't follow his advice, but after looking at my eyes with the big machine thing he says they're not perfect, but they're not that bad either, so he said he won't make a big fuss over it.

your eyes are probably really dry and irritated. stop sleeping w. your contacts in. I've done this before I got surgery. Try some eyedrops (Refresh PM)- and get some rest (without the contacts).

LOL, you should be better at running that swimming , swimming is more physically demanding.

All swimmers I know have amazing cardio, but mine as a wrestler I think is much better.

Just get lasik eye surgery so that way your lazy ass will never have this problem again.

Everyone I've know that got Lasik says it sucks, and apparently there are tons of complications. I also read somewhere I think that you can't join the Air Force if you had Lasik or something weird like that.

If it doesn't go away in a couple days then go to an emergency room.

What, about taking your contacts out every day and washing them?

THATS BECAUSE YOU'LL GET AN INFECTION AND GO BLIND YOU FUCKING MORON. THEY TELL YOU THESE THINGS FOR A REASON.

Don't sleep with your contacts on, unless you would enjoy being blind.
Enjoy your cancer.

Ok, I woke up today and it's still there. There was lots of crusty stuff trying to keep my eye closed. Lots of discharge, looks yellow.

It's also feels a bit sore. So do I have pink eye?

Cuz it isn't itchy at all.

QFT

When I wore contacts, I got a bottle of expired sanitation solution (not knowing, of course) and I got infected cysts on my eyelids. They had to be lanced with a giant needle, while some tool was holding my eyes wide open Clockwork Orange style.

tl;dr Stop being an idiot. You're lucky it's not worse.

Ok I went to the eye doctor.

Unfortunately this was all my fault, from wearing the contacts too long.

I got a staph infection in my eye lulz.

Now I have to take eyedrops every 2 hours for 2 days, and then 4 times a day on sun. and i have to go back on mon. for them to check it out.

Moral of the story, Don't wear your contacts forever.

As for me, I don't know whether I'll relapse into my old bad habits, or start using my glasses more or what. I'll figure something out.

unless you're using the contacts are specially designed for long-term use, always take them off before you go to sleep. With some contacts, you can even swim in the pool or take a shower with, but the soft ones, you have to take em off, say after 15 hours of use. and that's really the max.

you can wear contacts for way longer than recomended, as long as you take them out when you sleep and keep propper hygene. Clean the lenses at least once a day and you should shower at least once a day with them out.

I hope you learned your lesson to not take your eyes for granted.

My gf wears her contacts for weeks at a time. I tell her she should take them out at least once every two days but she says that her contacts are made for sleeping in. Then she wonders why her eyes hurt constantly. Girls are stupid.

i hated contacts...well my eyes hated having them in. i went through so many different brands trying to find one that wouldnt irritate my eyes.

Finally just got laser surgery. Best investment I have ever made. Amazing how I take my vision for granted now.

As OP, I say you shouldn't be too worried. I haven't changed my contacts out since December so if she's changing them out every few weeks I guess she should be fine, but then again it probably depends on the person, and their luck.
