I read a study a while ago where a group of obese people who were under a controlled daily calorie intake, with part of the group having six meals a day, and one group having the traditional three. Results? There was pretty much no difference in weight loss.
Honestly, six meals a day can be helpful to keep you full and not resort to snacking, but it doesn't "increase your metabolism" by any means. People who want to gain mass also have six meals a day because they can't shove down so much protein in a meal.
