Running is much better for fat burning than cycling.
I ride 20 km each way to work every day. When people hear that, they say "Oh my god, you must be in great shape!". I'm absolutely not. But I would be if I had spent the same amount of time running instead of biking.
Seriously, I bike everywhere, and if you're just going 7 miles a day, you might as well be taking the bus. It's not going to make you noticeably fitter, anyway.
