So /fit/ I want to get started into forearm strength building and the like.

Question is, what are the benefits of forearm strength? I already work out at the gym but I never specifically target that area.

Rock/mountain climbing.

I thought rock climbing was all about legs

That too.

Longer, easy climbs up mountains are more legs/back. The more technical the climb, the more the arms are used. Forearms will help you grip the rock so you don't fall off and die.

Also, you can get a much more firm handshake without making it look like you're trying.

What the fuck does that have to do with your lack of knowledge regarding the human body?

There's like no reason not to. It's an awesome feeling being able to close even a level one. Average person can't even do that on their first attempt. You'll notice benefits once you start training, plus you can do it almost anywhere. Personally I use mine everyday.

In tae kwon do?

Because if you're a 2nd degree black belt in any martial art that remotely involves proper punching technique, you'd know that your forearms are only a part of what makes a good punch.

And if you say you do karate, I will bitchslap you. What's the first move you learn? The reverse punch. What muscles does this entail? Everything from your legs to your core to your chest/shoulders and finally arms.

crushing apples is fun

Wrong. The legs are about 16 times stronger than the arms. Technique is insanely important when rock climbing, for strength is it far more important to have a well-developed upper body strength than well-developed lower body strength.
