Stretches Anonymous
How often should you do stretches with a partner's help, compared to stretching by yourself?

Stretching is nonsense.
Muscles can not be stretched, all you do is weaken the ligaments.

Muscles suffer small tears when stretched, which are then filled in to make them longer, providing increased range of motion.

no. the tendons and ligaments attaching muscle to bone are stretched.
Those get longer.

That's why profesional kickboxers can take your head off with those weakened legs of theirs.

any good sites on stretching, with techniques, videos, etc?

i do cardio+lifting 3-4 times a week and would like to try some light, full-body stretching on my off days.

Pavel Tsatsouline (sp?) has a book called Beyond Stretching and another called Super Joints which deal with stretching and joint mobility (with a bit of stretching) respectively.

As for the stretching ligaments thing, that's bad but most people think that when they stretch a muscle they should be feeling it at the joint where the muscle connects (e.g. right behind the knee when stretching the hamstring) but really the stretch should be a few inches higher, in the actual muscle. Do a good-morning with no weight, slightly bent knees, and you should feel what I mean. If you still feel it on the back of your knee then bend your knees a bit more.
