I'm 19, female, 5'4", and 175-180 lbs

Before getting out on my own I weighed 145, and would like to get back to there.

I have a very small gym at my disposal, but money is limited as far as foods go.

What can I do to lose the weight?

Regarding your question: Do not starve. Do not go "on" a diet. Work out a lot and eat veggies, meat, dairy products, oats, fruits...

basic principle to lose weight is to burn more calories than you take in by eating.

easiest way would be starving, but do not do this shit. It fucks up your health and you will gain a lot of weight after starvation mode is over.

Do lots of cardio (HIIT) AND try to do some weight lifting (SQUATZ), especially to build some of the larger muscles (lats, glutes, quads). May sound strange but it will help burning calories while you are not working out, which is the majority of the day.

Stay away from candy or any other sweet stuff, except for veggies and fruits. Eat more Protein and fibre to fill your stomach.

I wont recommend this for everyone, I guess it depends on your metabolism really. I can lose weight just by eating less, nothing more. No exercise, no diet change, I just lose weight so damn fast by cutting down meal portions. For me what worked was eating something decent for breakfast, then eating nothing else until dinner. It works well if you have something during your day to distract you from hunger like work, school or any general time sinkhole you can get lost in.

Oddly enough, if you eat any junk food, you'll save more money because JUNK FOOD IS EXPENSIVE (usually)

Also, ANY grains you eat, MAKE SURE they're COMPLETELY WHOLE GRAIN.

And stop eating sugar/anything that's overprocessed.

Oh, and MAKE SURE YOU EAT BREAKFAST, it's very important and fucks up your metabolism if you don't eat it. If you don't eat breakfast, you're actually MORE likely to get fat. Never skip breakfast, ever.

As with most of the suggestions within this thread, improve your diet and increase the amount of exercise you're doing.
For improving your diet, its not necessarily about absolutely dropping all the foods you love, but rather improving your nutritional intake. I suggest you adopt the cheat day so you don't break and go back to eating crap. As time progresses stretch the cheat days out farther apart.

For exercise, I do not suggest HIIT to start with, assuming you haven't been running in a while. Take it slow, and build up. Start with very brisk walking and move to jogging. I HIGHLY suggest you do more than 30 minutes, 45 at least. Weightlifting can also be beneficial, as your muscles need calories to grow after you put a heavy strain on them. Despite that it's /fit/'s cure all, squats really would help. Dead lift's too. Start low and start slow with both exercises. Good luck anon. Exercise for at least 90 minutes.
Eat around 1350 calories to 1500 calories.
30% of those calories should come from fats, 20% from proteins and 50% from carbohydrates.

To help naturally combat depression: St. John's Wort.

Meal Choices: To make it easy, go primarily with plain protein choices like chicken, tuna, and cottage cheese. Don't over complicate your diet. You can eat Vegetables virtually all day long - raw or steamed.

I would say you should aim for 75-100g of protein or more. Become friends with cottage cheese (add pineapple if you don't like the taste). Eat tons of veggies. Frozen are just as good as fresh, nutritionally.

As for exercise, you'll see the *fastest* turn around by implementing both weights and aerobic. If you have limited access to weights, do what you can - but weights should be strenuous. Too often girls load up the equivalent of a soup can and work - that's not really helping much. You should work out just like a man - 8-10 reps, with the last reps being pretty difficult.

30 minutes of weights followed by 30 minutes cardio in a day, or 60 minutes cardio at a time, or 45 minutes cardio in the morning on an empty stomach followed by 60 minutes cardio later in the day.
