So I have a friend who wants to begin strength training
but he's been using a Bowflex and Weight Machines.
I keep telling him to use freeweights and start Rippetoe's or 5x5 Stronglifts, but he won't listen. He wants evidence against the use of machines. C'mon /fit/, give me some hard evidence to use against the guy and set him straight.

it's possible to gain strength using machines, except it takes longer and it's not as efficient.

We all have built-in stabilizers-- it's called equilibrium.
