/fit/, I've been trying to start a work out routine but my haphazard planning isn't doing any good. I'll work out one day, but I'll be sore for the next five so I end up forgetting about it.

Should I stick to a routine even if I'm sore?

I think it will help your body get used to it if you stick with it regularly. If that's to hard, cut your routine back a bit. There's no point in having a routine if you can't do it. Also try stretching out afterwards, and making sure you're getting plenty of protein as well.

I should probably ask, are we talking cardio or lifting?

Calisthenics, mostly. I have a stationary bicycle, an elliptical trainer, a dumbell/barbell with 75lbs and a crappy "all-in-one" weight lifting machine at my disposal.

Take ten minutes AFTER your workout and stretch. It will help. Also, don't push yourself too far. Wouldn't it be better to work out consistently on a smaller scale than excessively once a week?

Yes, workout as planned when you're sore. You'll feel better afterwards, and eventually you'll adjust and have a much better recovery time.
