in b4 any mention of the MMA.
>> Martial Arts Anonymous
forgot the text, What can /fit/ tell me about the different Martial Arts? How is the training for each Martial Art (What does the training have you do, in addition to learning the Art itself)? And is any Martial Art superior to another (If any Martial Art really is superior, otherwise it's just opinion)
>> Trevor !!qsVpFXaydzm
>>173876
I agree. Martial arts suck.
>> Anonymous
>>173882

to make this short, if you want to train in actual self defense. Do Judo, JJ, Boxing, Kick boxing, Muay thai.

those arts have been proven in the ring and on the street as systems that work.

I'm going to hope you forgot the extra "M."

No. I hate threads here about this stupid crap.

Well MMA isn't martial arts, so I'm not sure what you're talking about then...
>> Anonymous
The art part of it is more fun and fulfilling, if that's what you want go with traditional Chinese styles like Wing Chun

If you want to be a slackjawed meat head, go with the only styles ever used in "mixed" martial arts... Brazilian Jujitsu and Muay Thai

>>173882

It's the practicioner, not the art.

For example, I'm pretty sure Lance Armstrong could pick up any sport and kick everyone's ass.

You can get fulfillment out of the japanese ones too.

Proven in the ring isn't ever a relevant thing in true martial arts. I agree on needing to be useful in the street.

You sure have some prejudice against certain martial arts. Suddenly Wing Chun is art and BJJ and Muay Thai is for slack jaw meatheads.

As for OP, martial arts depends on the individual and how good the teacher is. You get as much as you put in, even if it's a more practical style it doesn't automatically make you a great fighter. And yeah, there are tiers in MA in terms of practicality, but it's 70% on you to practice and learn.
>> Anonymous
>>173909
Pretty sure anyone properly trained in karate could stop one of them.
>> Anonymous
>>173917
Part of the thing about tiers though, is its really just on how readily practical they are. I don't think any of the martial arts are really impractical.

Well then, Kung Fu is for a bunch of spineless effeminate Asian men who are scared of authority, too shy to flirt with women and then complain about losing their girls to white guys.

Martial arts are good for being a hobby that keeps you in shape, and gives you some level of discipline. Outside of that, I don't really see it as any more than that. Just a hobby. Tournament sparring in the various MA's is a lot of fun... but seriously, in a real life fight, your first objective should be to get the fuck away. Don't be a hero and get yourself shanked or shot.

so much butthurt against MMA, I smell sour grapes
>> Anonymous
>>174010

Tournament sparring is wtfshit compared to freestyle

Martial Arts does have practicality if you're well-rounded, and can help you if some drunk asshole tries to go Swayze or some shit and you can't avoid it, but yeah, always try to fucking run first

This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

My rifle is my best friend. It is my life. I must master it as I must master my life.

My rifle, without me, is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless. I must fire my rifle true. I must shoot straighter than my enemy who is trying to kill me. I must shoot him before he shoots me. I WILL...

My rifle and myself know that what counts in this war is not the rounds we fire, the noise of our burst, nor the smoke we make. We know that it is the hits that count. WE WILL HIT...

My rifle is human, even as I, because it is my life. Thus, I will learn it as a brother. I will learn its weaknesses, its strength, its parts, its accessories, its sights and its barrel. I will ever guard it against the ravages of weather and damage as I will ever guard my legs, my arms, my eyes and my heart against damage. I will keep my rifle clean and ready. We will become part of each other. WE WILL...

Before God, I swear this creed. My rifle and myself are the defenders of my country. We are the masters of our enemy. WE ARE THE SAVIORS OF MY LIFE.

So be it, until victory is America's and there is no enemy, but peace!

I always loved the ending to that: "no enemy, but peace"

It can be interpreted various ways. Heheh.
