Hey /fit/ it's taken awhile but I am fed up with myself and like all other times I have a problem I turn to the Internet.

I am a 19 year old 6'2" male 220 lbs. Fat comp-sci student.

Now the real shame of this is that I basically won the male gene lottery. Wide shoulders tapering to a narrower waist etc. This is from the front. However turn me sideways and I suck. Beerbelly type thing all jutting out and being gross.

Anyway, what I want to do is lose fat WITHOUT gaining too much muscle. If I do gain muscle (and obviously with exercise I will) it would be better if it was lean. I really don't like the GARR I EAT YOU NOW bodybuilder look(pic related). A starting routine/diet would be what I need but all I really want is some advice to the general way to going about what I want to accomplish, maybe a website or two.

well, wisdom here has it that first you bulk (eat tons of GOOD food while weight training n shit, not worrying about the fat that comes with the muscle), then cut (losing fat and inevitably some muscle through a calorie deficit and cardio). But i guess if you feel youre already strong, maybe you should start cutting straight away.

Do some independent research.

OP, this guy ^ is a faggot. Don't listen to him and his kind. You don't have to lift weights if you want to lose fat. Sure, muscles increase your metabolism and can help you shed you fat faster, but then you end up with muscles you didn't want. Do you want to be stuck with having an increased protein intake requirement and having to work out just to maintain that shit for the rest of your life?

Fuck weight training. Just do cardio. Either HIIT or long distance joggin, whatever floats your boat.

They post pics of bodybuilders that take thousands of dollars worth of anabolic steroids and painstakingly forge their physique over many years, and they think that's not only somehow attainable, but that they'll do it on accident.

Really, show me one natural athlete, just one, who is anywhere near looking "too muscular". It doesn't exist. Bodybuilders go far far beyond their normal genetic limits with drugs. If you don't understand that, you are a fool. Strength training is absolutely necessary to total fitness, and if you're too pussy to turn to the iron, you will never achieve any kind of meaningful level of fitness.

If you just do cardio with a calorie deficit, you could lose up to equal amounts of muscle with the fat. If you weigt train IN ADDITION to cardio in a calorie deficit not only will you lose fat faster, but you will preserve muscle, thereby dropping body fat percentage at a much faster pace.

Wrong. True, you will experience a small (keyword SMALL) amount of muscle growth, but these are called newbie gains for a reason: they only last a short time.

The fact of the matter is, is that gaining lean muscle mass is very hard to do. It takes a rock solid diet, a consistent, smart training program and years of determination. You aren't going to pick up some weights then one day look in the mirror and realize you've suddenly become a meathead.

Honestly, saying you don't want to gain muscle to look like a bodybuilder is like saying you're afraid to touch a piano because you don't want to be a virtuoso. It doesn't fucking work like that.

i have been eating over 4000 calories for the past 2 years, high protein, lifting HEAVY iron 3 - 5 days a week. And i am nowhere near "hueg" But im lean as fuck, i can fill out a large tee, and im strong as fuck. but i still look totally natural. trust me, getting all beefy and big doesn't happen overnight, personally its fucking INSULTING when people say that, assuming its that easy.

you have to SWEAT BLEED and HURT day in and day out to get muscular and strong

OP here. Alright, cool beans then. Sorry about my ignorance (I hate being dumb) but basically just do what everyone else that asks questions like mine on /fit/ gets told? Cardio+wieghts+diet=goodness(eventually)? Should I do some cardio when I go to the gym to do the weights as well? Right now I plan on biking/running as in run every second morning (M/W/F/Sun) and bike every other morning as well as to work (big fucking job that is). I don't see how spending a little time on an elliptical/bike/treadmill/whathaveyou could hurt.
