defensive use of everyday things: roll up a news paper, STAB with keys.... for stabbing/slashing implements (knives, keys, etc.) unless you know what you're doing extensively, make the pointy end come out the pinky side of your fist... combine punch and slash... unarmed - clench your fingers and backhand, use your forearm... if you punch, do it right... nothing sucks more than a broken trigger finger/911 dialing finger... there are no rules in a streetfight, think of it as someone trying to kill you... you must take away ALL of there ability to hurt you... winning the fight doesn't mean they give up, it means they are physically incapacitated... further, hold the macho revenge bullshit and DON'T fight when it isn't necessary (read as 'when your life isn't in danger)
avoid fad diets... avoid really low calorie diets... if a wrestler or boxer: don't do a waterweight crash to weigh in at a lower class (as an athletic trainer i could link to studies about this)...
don't use weight machines that fix the track of where the weight moves, these encourage poor technique (or at least don't discourage it)
if you run/walk a mile a day (in most cities this would be running around your block 2-4 times), you will keep your metabolism up and feel considerably healthier... more exercise is encouraged, but it's nice to know how easy it is to start into the process of getting fit
