The Press. Shit at it I am. Training it vaguely for about a month (off and on), and now on stronglifts for almost a month, an I can't press more than 90lbs (atm I'm failing my last set of 5 90lbs, doing like 3-4, wrists want to die). It's like murder. Anyone else reach an early ohp plateau? Also, my squats seem to be having trouble in the middle of the week now that I've taken up muay thai on off days.

6ft, 165lbs, 185 bench, 170squat, 185 dl, NINETY ohp.

Sadface.

You fucking bench as much as you deadlift and more than you squat?

Are you retarded or something?

cut the press back to 70, work it for 5x3.
work it once per week, go up 5 lbs per week.
cut out the muay thai unless you want your squatz to continue to fail. pick one. get xbox hooooooooge and then become a master of disasster

When I started lifting about two months ago it was with a friend who barely ever did compound lifts save press and bench. When I realised he was a curlz 4 gurlz guy I politely said stronglifts.

And that squat is not my like maximum, I've never tested my maximum. it's just what I failed at a day ago on my last set of 5x5.

How would this help? His one rep max is probably around 115 or so, so you want him to do 60% of his max for 5?

My advice would be to stop doing stronglifts, or stop doing OHP for a while, do something else, then go back.

OP, do you know what the term "deload" means?

90 is obviously too much for him. So lets have him go to 75, and then go up 5 per week. by the time he's back up to 90, he'll be able to do more than 3-4.) his wrists are weak!

But why go so much lower? It'll still be fucking hard on his wrists if he's doing em like a retard, plus he doesn;t get any benefit from not pushing it.

Maybe go to 85, then back up to 90, MAYBE. I'd just try something else for a while.

He will be pushing it if he goes down to 75 and works his way up to 90 by doing a weight for 5x3 and then moving up 5 lbs. Your advice, do nothing/"something else for a while" isn't exactly pushing it now is it.

the same thing happened to me. I couldn't lift a certain weight, backed down about 15 lbs and was able to quick progress. He can't handle 90, so let's move him down and work him back up.

You want him to "push" a weight he can't handle and/or "do something else."

OP: deload the press and please report back your progress.

He said he can do 90 for like 4 sets of 5, and then the last set he does 4 reps. So he can almost fucking do it, and he can fucking handle it.

I'm suggesting to do a different exercise because that's what happens when you only do one exercise for a long time, you fuckin plateau. Doing different exercises mixes it up for your body and allows you to keep progressing.

HURR DURR, fucking read next time faggot

For the next four weeks you will train the press on Wednesdays like this:
55 x 5 x 2
65 x 5 x 1
75 x 5 x 3

55 x 5 x 2
65 x 5 x 1
80 x 5 x 3

55 x 5 x 2
65 x 5 x 1
85 x 5 x 3

55 x 5 x 2
65 x 5 x 1
75 x 3 x 1
90 x 5 x 3

I surprised myself the first time I tried to do OHP. I struggled to even lift 90lbs. It hasn't gotten much better... but I'm doing 115 now.... still no where close to my bench.
