Dear /fit, I want to start a weight training program that effectively works out and sculpts my entire body. I've recently joined a gym for the first time and am also using machines. I've yet to start trying free weights as I don't know how to use them and am sort of intimidated by the complexity of it all, though I am willing to learn.

So far I've been going with a friend who has touched up on weights before. He's teaching me the ropes and how to use the machines and all, but we usually tend to wander aimlessly trying to do every which machine.

I've been mostly overweight (but not obese) for a large majority of my life and am happy to see that my proper eating habits and my cardio/weight training is paying off after just a few weeks of going to the gym.

Please help me /fit. I've been searching Google for a weight training program for days now, but I find so many different ones that my head spins.

Can /fit please help me find a weight training program which is not only proven, but helpful and reliable (and feasible) as well?

I've already read most of Tom Venuto's book and am already applying its teachings effectively. I want to look like Tom does in this picture one day in the distant future, but would love to have even half of his final image.

If you want a good training program OP, try looking at http://www.bodybuilders.com/ It's got a lot of well made tutorial's for starters.

stronglifts.com is good for beginners, but eventually work out a routine that works for you, when you're more used to your body and using weights.

Ditch the machines, you can never get them adjusted to exactly your body, but with free weights that's not a problem.
Try to do several heavy compound excercises rather than excercises that target just one body part (SQUATZ not CURLZ). If you wanna do CURLZ 4 DA GURLZ, do them last, compound excercises come first.

Aim to be in the gym no longer than 45 mins, lurk moar and good luck!

That's my problem. I just want to find one that works effectively, but am always overwhelmed by many that "work". I just want one, but I'm indecisive and don't know which to choose. ;_; can anyone help me?

Question: Is it okay to do my cardio the same day as my weights?
