Is it possible to get stronger and build muscle WITHOUT supplements. Don't feel like taking creatine and whey, but I eat quite a bit of protein-rich food (not enough but still trying to increase).
Some people I've talked to say it's not possible, or it'll take years.

pic unrelated sort of

Of course it is possible, but it's slower. It's just far more convenient to drink a whey shake or two during the day that eating tons of chicken and tuna

It is completely possible.

Whey shakes are very convenient, but you don't need them. So long as you can make up your protein amounts with natural foods, you'll grow just as quick as anyone else.

Creatine is totally unwarranted unless you want to get BIG. If you just wanna put on some practical muscle, you don't need to touch the stuff.

RAW EGGS

Boiled eggs have easily digestible protein so its better.

You can live without most of that shit but you're cheating yourself without Whey protien. It's basically just easy-digesting protien that helps maximize your gains.

OP here, thanks for answers.
I'm eating quite a bit of eggs, chicken and all the good stuff, and I'm only working out to become stronger and adding some weight so I don't look like an anorexic bitch.
Is whey protein expensive? Can anyone link me to a good product?
Also, I heard it tastes like fuckshit?

There's tons of brands on offer, google it.
Most taste pretty good too

Actually, creatine isn't really for building muscle. It's really just a performance enhancer, which allows you to perform better at exercises. This can indirectly lead to more muscle if you are lifting weight, but it is also known to be used by others such as sprinters, who benefit from faster ATP production in their fast-twitch muscle cells.

Large range of prices for whey protein. I (and a lot of other people around here) use Optimum Nutrition Gold Whey (the natural chocolate is my favorite, and right up your alley).

It is about 40 bucks for a 70+ serving tub, so not really that expensive. You can buy it on amazon w/ free shipping.

It tastes pretty good too.

signed. This is exactly what my trainer said to me: "It won't put on 40lbs of muscle; it *will* help you get those reps you might not otherwise have gotten."

The good stuff is expense. TrueProtein.com probably has the best stuff on the market but it will cost you.

It doesn't taste that bad; kind of bland but nothing that will make you retch the way Branch Chain Amino Acids will. (THOSE are truly foul. So was Whey back in the day but things have gotten better.) There are many, many recipes on the web for tasty shakes anyway. If you're doing it right you can combine some of your post-workout re-feeding carbs with the shake to make it more palatable.

In general if you're lifting heavy (and you should be if you want to get stronger, If you want to lift heavy weights you have to lift heavy weights.) 40 grams before the workout and 60 grams after is about optimal. That, and a multi-vitamin pack are the only supps I use and I was putting ten pounds on my maxes every week up until a month or two ago. (finally peaked but hey, it was bound to happen sooner or later.)

Yes OP, it's absolutely possible, whoever claims anything else... Well, won't come very far.

a good routine and diet does much more than doing either like shit and taking supps

OP all you need to really understand is that you're just missing out on Whey's benefits for post-workouts.

Whey has the greatest "digestion rate" of any protein and it digests the most rapidly as well.

That's really its strongest nutritional benefit in getting protein to your bloodstream expediently, although I doubt you're really stunting your growth by not taking a whey shake every time after you workout.

If you really don't want to take whey, my advice would be to eat a few eggs or other protein-filled foods around 1-2 hours or so before you go to the gym (if this is possible due to when you workout), so that your body is adequately supplied with protein when you're done with the gym.
>> Free Pepsi !!iXxa+hO94Mg
Possible. But if you're an entry level strength builder, the protein will be very noticeable. Your limbs and core won't feel like shit the first few weeks if you take protein. You will make much more gains with protein supplements.

I believe supplement wise, egg protein > whey protein, not sure.

why do you believe this?

whey is part of a good diet imo. It's not practical for weightlifters to consume the amount of protein they need every day unless they live in a fish factory or some shit.

nothing wrong with creatine, it's in red meat

or, you know... they could eat some beef or pork now and then... or a glas of milk...

honestly guys, it isn't hard to get the protein you need daily without supplementation

fucking retard. How about reading something for once before you come spouting off bullshit.

It's recommended that bodybuilders eat 1.5 grams of protein for every pound of bodyweight. You try eating 250-300+ grams of protein a day without supplementation. Pro tip, faggot - a 6 ounce steak only has about 30 grams of protein.

protip - I get my daily protein requirements without supplementation.

it really isn't that hard

If you have the appetite of an obese WoW player, perhaps.

also, steak is 50-60 grams per 6 ounces... not 30, asshat

I get somewhere in the neighborhood of 4000 to 4500 calories per day (maintanence level for rowing)... does that count as obese WoW player levels?
>> Anonymous
This may be a really stupid question, but I'm very very lactose intolerant. I get gas and indigestion from a single M&M. Can I drink whey shakes?
>> Anonymous
>>118912
Yep. 4500 will make most people want to puke from being overly full.

That's an assload of food. Especially clean food.

you should be fine if you mix the whey with water. but it tastes a bit harsher that way.

during wrestling season i drink a gallon of water a day and take in around the area of 3500 calories, and this season i still dropped from 225 to 181 pounds. And its pretty easy to build muscle without supplements if you diet properly for it, that just means eating a shit load of natural peanut butter, sushi, and boiled or grilled chicken with no salts.

Also im just wondering if this is healthy, but my average weight loss per practice this season was 6 pounds in sweat but it was almost all water weight. So it took me about 4 months to drop the 45 pounds and keep it off. But is it unhealthy to lose that much in water weight a day if im drinkin a gallon of water a day?
>> Anonymous
>>118937
As opposed to mixing it with..?
>> Anonymous
>>118972

I drink a shitload of water also, its really annoying because it all goes out at night... so basically I have to wake up 4 times a night to piss and I'm still feeling thirsty. I doubt its unhealthy though.
>> Anonymous
>>118972

It's not unhealthy to sweat that much as long as you're drinking enough water to stay hydrated.
>> Anonymous
if you're consuming a gallon of water in a single session, make sure you keep track of sodium intake. if it comes down to it, mix in some grape juice and table salt (a pinch or so)
>> Anonymous
just out of interest does egg white or yolk have more protein
>> Anonymous
>>119048
Whites, but yolks are still good.

Get Egg Beaters with Yolk. Every 1/4 of a cup of the stuff has 40 calories and the same amount of protein a normal egg has, which is 6g, for 70 calories. Every 1/4 of a cup equals an egg, by the way. Remember to shake it well, unlike how I did...

Supplements aren't necessary and won't provide much benefit to the vast majority of people. Just eat right and exercise and you'll be fine OP.
