Seriously... I hear health nuts badmouth diet soda, but i've never heard a real or sound argument against it. Is this just some sort of mental masturbation for health freaks? Is "dies soda is bad" = "organic is better"? Something people spout off without knowing shit about it?

Aspartame.

not to mention just generally dumping a bunch of shitty chemicals into your body. its not the worst thing in the world, but if you're serious about trying to lose weight you'd do well to cut it.

Dude, I just mentioned what my dentist said. She's not a moron and she kinda sorta works in the industry so I took her word for it. If someone wants to look up the research evidence and confront her then by all means do so. I'll give you her address and you can rage on her ass.

No, I don't care what you do. I don't drink it, I'm sure it won't kill you but as long as there is so much controversy about it I have no urge to use it. Also it does not enrage me when people do things different so I don't feel the need to do an extensive web search just to durr hurr prove you wrong.

All I can offer is my stupid smug face grin when I see fat people ordering 60 Big Macs and one Mega Gulp of Diet Soda.

>Apparently soda is mildly corrosive and it eats away at the enamel on teeth.

Fun fact: Many pure fruit juices are more acidic. Even carbonic acid in sparkling water is corrosive. Your teeth are going to melt whatever you drink. May as well enjoy yourself.

Oh and might I add, you haven't proven yourself right just by saying NON-CONCLUSIVE.

Did you just compare to acids in coke to water? Why am I even replying to you?

Do you lack any reading comprehension? His point was water isn't going to "melt" your teeth.

It's called the burden of proof. Your claim is that diet soda is bad. You have the burden of proof.

Oh god, this is going to turn out as another shit storm thread, I'll save the BS for you, this is how it fucking is:

Is Diet Coke bad for you? Yes, and you should stop drinking it, as it many negative long term effects.

Will it inhibit weight loss? No. Providing you don't use the fact you're drinking diet Coke as an excuse to eat more than you otherwise would be.

You seem to be under the impression I'm here to google the web for you. Let me set this straight: I don't care what you do or believe.
If you want to partake in a discussion you have got to come up with more than entering it with a "prove me wrong" mentality or this board will end up as a second /b/.

At temperatures not much too higher than room temperature, aspartame degrades into formaldehyde, a known carcinogen.

Just hope your shit is shipped in refrigerated trucks.
>> faggot !kzxLmJyzX.
Aspartame arguements are almost as bad as mercury in tuna or estorgen in soy. You would have to be drinking gallons of this shit daily to have a minimal effect on you (if even at all, inconclusive test results from studies argue both sides). More to the point, why even drink it at all? I don't know if theres a difference between UK and US diet coke/soda's, but i cant even drink any of them at all because it tastes like shit, regardless of the flavour. But if you're going to drink it, at least make it diet. I mean ffs, you save hundreds of calories by drinking diet coke and i can't even taste a difference between them.

it does this during digestion also, along with many other foods, and is cleared from the system like everything else. This has been shown to be non-harmful for normal use.

First of all: I can't.

Little is known about the long term effects of artificial sweetener. There have been studies about it causing cancer, increase appetite but all inconclusive.

What is being discussed the most currently are the psychological dangers from drinking diet coke.

That is for example you will think "I'm drinking diet coke, thus I can eat more of X)".
Or by seeing drinking diet coke as an active thing you do for your health when it isn't doing anything FOR your health. Thus motivating you less to do anything else and eventually let it fade.
Another thing is: Coke goes very well with fat foods and if you drank coke a lot before you started to work out you will associate it with a tasty burger thus making you lust for it, making it more probable you fall back.

That all aside, if you can focus on your fitness plan and don't replace your water intake with diet coke it's likely that it is not bad at all.

Personally, I don't like how diet coke tastes, if I have a coke once or twice a year I have a real one. 160lbs 6'0" btw

>There have been studies about it causing cancer

What i find funny is there is so many other things that have studies showing it MAY cause cancer or some other disease but nobody is that bothered about them.

a study at Purdue found that rats fed artificially sweetened liquids were more inclined to overeat than those fed sugared liquids. The researchers hypothesized that the body regulates food intake partially by using taste clues, and when “sweetness” no longer seems to be associated with calories to be burned by the body, the body abandons that clue as meaningful, and doesn’t try to restrict the intake of sweets as strongly as before. (Translation: When you drink diet soda, you may tend to pig out on sweet junk food and desserts more.)

also just by looking at foods that contain sugar your bodies metabolism revs up a bit...but when you look at fake sugar your metabolism does not rev up. You can tell the difference. In my personal opinon you are better off drinking a small amount of regular soda than any diet soda...at least regular soda is still 45% glycogen.....
>> faggot !kzxLmJyzX.
>>452227

You can work round it by drinking a glass of water and waiting 20 mins. If you are eating properly and regularly i.e. 6 small meals you shouldn't ever feel the need to pig out, and if you do just keep some cooked plain chicken in the fridge. I used to do it and just chewing it with the dryness took my hunger away easily and it always filled me up for a while.

It's just a personal opinion, i really don't see the need to be drinking liquid calories when you have diet coke there.
>> Anonymous
>>452227
No, you can't tell the difference.
Your metabolism doesn't just get up and start walking. You can't change it with 1 single meal. Also, we're not rats - GTFO.

oh so you are telling me you've never looked a really hot girl in the eyes and felt your heart go boom and speed up just from looking her in the eyes? People start to get happy just from smelling food in a room have you ever noticed how if you go to a sports arena they fill the place up with good smells? I defintely think your body can have a response simply from looking at sugar certainly it might not be as detectable as the response is when you look at a hot girl.

But now that i think about it. Maybe Diet soda acts sort of like a GI booster. You have food that is good for you and healthy but you add the Diet Soda and it causes the food to absorb too quickly. When your food absorbs too quickly that is simply a recipe for weight gain. You know I think that really makes a lot of sense to me. I bet that is the problem with Diet Soda. Either way I've seen the evidence. Most of the truly truly obese people i've known had a love affair with diet soda.
>> Anonymous
so no thoughts on the fact that diet soda may be a GI booster? does this make sense to anybody else? as to why diet soda makes people fat? I personally think it makes a lot of sense....but then again i might just be insane.
>> anonymous
there are artificial sugars, flavors and other crappy ingredients in it which are bad for you.
>> Anonymous
Diet Soda: Obviously not healthy, but not significantly unhealthy.

It's better than drinking regular soda. It's worse than drinking water.

/these fucking incessant diet soda threads

lol long term effects, ill take my chances with this tasty beverage to wash down this tasty burger
>> Anonymous
>>453784
just one tasty burger? why don't you have seconds?
>> Anonymous
How could i do an experiment to see if Diet Soda is a GI booster? I guess make an acid that is similar to Bile and add food and diet soda to container and observe? Do one with water one with regular soda? Any ideas?
>> Anonymous
>>453818
this will fail horribly due to the absence of natural enzymes added by secretory epithelial cells found in the stomach/digestive tract, not to mention pH gradients, the absorbance of compounds by other epithelial cells throughout the GI.

Although I understand what you're trying to do, it's entirely too complex a system to replicate in an experiment. You'd have to use rats or some other experimental system in order to actually obtain any kind of data.
>> Anonymous
diet sodas aren't bad. Of course water is better, but there's nothing necessarily bad about it unless you have stomach problems and have problems drinking soda anyway.
>> Anonymous
Because diet soda doesn't foam as much.
