I'm a beginner trying to bulk up and just gain some strength for the moment, so I've got the following routine worked out...

Squats X10
Pushups X10
Crunches x20

...and I repeat that until I can't manage 1 rep. Questions, is this ok? How often should I be doing it? every 2nd day? 3 days a week?

With weights for squats or without? Without weights you're going to find squats way too easy after just a week or so, and you'll be doing crunches in much higher counts than 20 as well.

Personally I think that's a rather simplistic routine, and I'd recommend some dumbbell work at least, but if you don't have the money for that then this is infinitely better than nothing. Just throw in some jogging as well, and do this routine every other day.

I'm using 7.5kg(16.5lb) dumbbells, I squat down, come up, then raise them above my head military press style. I'll probably start holding a weight on my chest for the crunches too when I get a bit stronger.

Don't muscles grow with rest? I didn't think you were supposed to do this on consecutive days.

Either way, what I'm aiming for is something like these "HIIT" workouts I read about. I'm not fit at all and this simple workout has me exhausted fairly quick.

Would it be a good idea to stick in some basic dumbbell work, like some biceps/tricep stuff?

Do you have anything constructive to say?

Otherwise known as a thruster.

Add pull-ups and it's starting to look like a workout.

A real routine would be better.

When I worked out all the time I did it 5-6 days a week. My metabolism was so high that I couldn't put on much muscle. I was eating a ton (the right shit) and taking all types of weight gainer and looked almost the same, only got stronger.

I'm just doing this at home, don't have anything for pull ups, gym is way too expensive too, but as long as I'm on the right track for now, I'll feel the need to add some more in in a week or so when I'm a bit stronger.
