What about the vitamins/minerals/essential oils that get stripped off along with the bran? What about the insulin spike that you get with white rice? There's more to food than calories, carbs, and even fiber--you've got a whole slew of micronutrients to worry about, plus you've gotta consider how the body processes it. White rice loses on all accounts. Of course, white rice won't kill you (as evidenced by millions of people who have used it as a dietary staple), but it's not ideal either.
It also loses in the flavor department...white rice tastes like nothing, but brown rice has a subtle nutty flavor to it. There's absolutely no reason to use white rice when brown is now widely available (and often cheaper). People just prefer white rice because that's what they were raised on.
