Alright so I recently did some research and sprinting seems unbelievably more beneficial than long-distance running. (In fact, is long-distance running beneficial at all other than keeping your # of pounds down?)

Anyway, I've been getting some DOMS the day after in this order of intensity:
1. Groin (WTF?)
2. Quads
3. Hammies

2 and 3 make sense but 1 is throwing me off. Is this probably due to bad form or is it just muscle imbalances correcting themself?

Also my one arch starts to hurt and feel really tight and my foot sorta begins to feel like a tightened claw, is this probably a shoe issue?

Thanks in advance for any help you may have

stretch and warm-up before you start your training.

your foot is turning into a tightened claw.

I do stretch and warm-up...
What does that have to do with anything?

the secondary function of the adductors (groin) is hip extension.

look up a muscle diagram, and the attachment points will make sense then

"Stretching before and after exercise has been suggested as a way of reducing DOMS, as has warming up before exercise, cooling down afterwards, and gently warming the area.[7] However, there is also evidence that the effect of stretching on muscle soreness is negligible.[8] Overstretching itself can cause DOMS."

...thanks?

A little soreness wouldn't concern me, it's just the fact that it's about twice as sore as anywhere else. Figured it might have been an indication of improper running form that I would need to try and correct.

Sidenote: It feels really good to go fast. Thank god I read up on this since long-distance running was unbearable to me.

you need to stretch
you need to stretch your groin
you may need to take some time off until it heals

i've had the same problem (although it was from lifting weights) my groin was so sore it would wake me up at night. i just needed to spend more time stretching and to make sure i stretch my groin no matter what body part(s) i was working

how important is it to have actual 'running shoes' when running???

not important if you dont mind CANCER OF THE FOOT

important, unless you enjoy grinding knees.

holy shit look at those knees
what the fuck they look painful as hell
do marathoners always get that?

thats what a knee looks like when it's not covered with 30 pounds of fat

the black dude's knee in the op doesn't look like that... and I'm pretty sure it's not cause of 30 pounds of fat...

Don't know what kind of shitty research you did, but you can't say that one is more beneficial than the other. They each improve different things, so saying one is more beneficial than the other is like saying this toothpaste is better than that bicycle.
Strength training ( like sprinting ) will mostly improve your strength, strength endurance ( increasing blood buffer capacity ) , increasing bone density and increasing muscle mass.
Benefits of endurance training ( like long distance running ) include improvements in cappilary ( blood vessel ) density, efficiency of aerobic metabolism, intramuscular fuel stores, circulation, blood volume, hemoglobin concentration ( for oxygen transport ) and increased cardio-respiratory and circulatory development and efficiency.
I just named a few of the improvements for each type of training and as you can see they both have their own benefits. And endurance training is certainly not only usefull for burning fat.

Besides I think you'll agree it's laughable if you spend all the time working out and trying to look "athletic" but when you have to run more than 500 yards you're exhausted in no time.
>> Anonymous
Just to clear it up, sprinting alone doesn't get you that kind of body. It's strength training that gives you that ripped, muscular look. The only reason all sprinters look like that is because strength training increases one's power and explosiveness, obviously very important in sprinting.

Also I'm an idiot. Repost of twins.

"These are twins. Ewald started track and field in high school, Otto chose distance running. Notice that Ewald is both taller and broader, as well as being (obviously) more muscular. Note also that track and field athletes have multi-pathway endurance while distance runners are oxidative-only. Note you are faggots. Read some goddamn phys papers on pubmed.

I hate all of you for no reason."

If you do use cushioned running shoes, the right shoe is very important, since you're essentially replacing your foot with a chunk of rubber.

You can also run barefoot or with minimal cushioning (such an in wrestling shoes) but you have to learn to land on your toes and cushion with the calf.

As for long distance running vs sprinting. That's like asking whether Squats are better than Bench Presses. You need both if you want to achieve balanced fitness. Long distance runners like Dean Karnazez, who take a balanced approach don't have muscle mass issues.

Wired article about him.

I just used it as an example for people who say long distance running is useless. I wasn't trying to say that you shouldn't do any strenght training, if you really want to be healthy you should do both.

>>193207
First of all, just because you found some info on a random internet site doesn't mean it's true. I have yet to see any real evidence in the form of credible scientific articles that proves strenght training is much better for improving cardiovascular fitness. But if you find any, please let me know. The article itself links to another article (http://stronglifts.com/cardiovascular-fitness-aerobic-or-anaerobic-exercise/) on that site to support his point. The article is full of mistakes like : "Aerobic exercises use lipids (fats) with oxygen for energy. Anaerobic exercise use ATP-PC or glycolisis (carbs) for energy". Aerobic exercise does not use only fat. Carbohydrates can be used to create energy with and without oxygen and is an important part of your aerobic metabolism. Why do you think that professional cyclists eat shitloads of pasta ( which is mostly carbohydrates ) ?

Now on to the supposed "evidence" that strenght training makes endurance training obsolete. According to him strenght training will improve your cardiovascular fitness only because "The muscular wall of your left ventricle will thicken so your heart can deal with the increased blood pressure" which means a stronger hart. This is indeed true but doesn't necessarily mean improved cardiovascular fitness(although a totally untrained person would probably get a small increase). The author defines the tasks of the cardiovascular system as:
Moving nutrients to/from cells and returning waste from cells
Carrying oxygenated blood from your heart to your body/lungs
Returning deoxygenated blood to your heart
>> Anonymous
Continued.

Most of these tasks will be greatly enhanced by endurance training because aerobic endurance relies mainly on your ability to get more oxygen to your muscles. This is because there are increases in the stroke volume ( from increases in cardiac volume, cardiac hypertrophy and ejection fraction ) , blood oxygen content ( increase in hemoglobin concentration ), capillary density, mitochondrial function, oxidative enzymes, intramuscular fuel stores etc. The combined effects of these improvements on cardiovascular fitness are much much bigger than the small increase caused by the increased cardiac strength ( which also occurs during endurance training )

The author concludes at the end that:"Actually even if you run marathons, interval training & weight lifting are superior to aerobic exercise. ". If that was true, then why aren't we seeing heavy weight lifters breaking new world records on marathon and other endurance events ?

So like I said in my previous post, they both have their own benefits and if you want to be healthy then you should do both strength and endurance training.

PS. I didn't provide any scientific articles because I didn't have much time ( and can't access most of the from my home ) , but there's tons of research that support my point.

So, I should be sprinting and then walking, and back and forth or what? I just burned 825 calories on the treadmill, but I wasn't sprinting.

Spoiler to faggop:
HIIT.
>> Anonymous
HIIT is superior to traditional aerobic distance work for building VO2max. VO2max = maximal oxygen uptake.

I just shot that faggot's whole argument down. And I'll go get the shitload of journals from pubmed supporting my statement too if someone wants to challenge me. Otherwise, I'm going to eat lunch.
