So I hurt my back a few weeks ago, and decided I should stretch before working out.JESUS FUCK, is it supposed to hurt like this? I'm gonna enjoy running more today just because it means I won't be stretching!
You stretch AFTER workouts. AFTER!Speaking of stretching, my hamstrings are REALLY tight right now. I suck it in when I'm stretching at the gym, but when I go home and stretch, I let myself scream. :(
>>24674Oh, and if it hurts, it means you haven't stretched enough. A lot of dudes get this problem, because all they want to do is get muscle results and not worry about flexibility.Take yoga.
>>24668LULZ!You only stretch to the point where it hurts and then pull back a bit.As you stretch more and more often (in a way that doesn't hurt) you will be able to stretch farther and farther.Stop hurting yourself, that's just silly. As for your back issues, get some resistance bands and look up back exercises on the interbutts. Resistance bands are CHEAP btw, they are just little strips of rubber.
My opinion is that you should NEVER stretch at all.Warming up is good, but stretching will only enhance the little muscle lesions you got during workout.Meaning, you increase the damage and thus the time it takes to repair.Imho, stretching is nonsense.
>>24686Uh the more you 'harm' the muscle the larger it repairs, you WANT to harm it otherwise it wont grow.
>>24686Lol! I guess you only want people to have sex in the most uncomfortable or boring ways possible.
>>24689What, like the back of a Volkswagen?
>>24687No, there's a limit, if it takes more than two days, you did too much. Also, if you ever encountered a rupture of a muscle, you know what real pain is.I had the joy and it took me two months till I was back to normal.
>>24689When you hit 35, such things suddenly become less important.
YOUR DOING IT WRONG!STRETCHING IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HURT!!!!!!!!If it hurts just don't stretch as far, it means you surpassed you limit.
>>24674You stretch BEFORE AND AFTER workouts. BEFORE AND AFTER !!! 5-10 seconds BEFORE workout and 15-30 seconds AFTER workout.
>>24698And i though everyone knew that, i guess not.
I was in an auto accident where the person who hit me had to pay to fix my back. So, I went to a sports therapist (the expensive kind) and he told me more than anything else stretching is the most important thing to do to recover. He taught me many stretches and how to do them right.Agreed. You don't stretch till it hurts. That's what he told me.
>>24698Stretching before is the most stupid thing ever. You lower the muscle tension which will only increase the chance of injury, especially if you lift heavy weights.
>>24694Maybe if you're lazy, have a boring sex life and just don't care.I know people who still want to be able to do kama sutra sex positions into their 50s if possible.
>>24705Yes, I know these people too. They are called "retards".
STRETCHING CATSCats. Cats know stretching.Have you seen Cat stretch? Is it natural?Cat is natural. It sleeps. When it wakes it stretch.Long back, Cat stretch.Like LongCat.Stretch like LongCat.Stretch Cat. Stretch.Cats know how to stretch.Cats don't work out before stretching.Cats don't work out.Cats hunt and play instead.Cats avoid carbs. The End.

Well, 3 miles in 25:33.Hopefully by next week I'll be back up to my previous 5 miles in 42:30 or so. Then I can concentrate on adding distance.
>>24698How about just stretching AS NECESSARY? by experience you learn what's needed and what's not. Admittedly I've gotten bored of hatha yoga, I just keep a few poses for when I'm getting TOO tight in my muscles that it's becoming painful... I have problms.
If you find it necessary you can stretch before a workout, BUT make sure to WARM UP FIRST. Cold stretching will end up causing more harm than good. The truth is, no one really has found a link between injury prevention and stretching before exercise, as far as running is concerned but warming up seems to be your best bet.
