Sup /fit/, I am essentially completely new to exercising but am trying to start losing weight. I'm broke and have no money for a gym, plus the closest one is a 45 minute drive which I a not up for doing three times a week. So, what I've decided to do is get out my bike and start biking in a big loop around my house three or four times a week, which is about 7 miles.
I want to lose fat around my stomach and midsection particularly, and my question is; if I keep up my routine of biking 7 miles 3 or 4 times a week for the next month or so and if I eat healthier, will it help me lose weight in these areas? Every time I do it I feel the strain in my legs, calves and thighs, but I'm not feeling much in my stomach, midsection or upper body so I wasn't sure if a biking routine would actually do what I wanted it to. Advice, thoughts, suggestions etc?

Fat is a fickle bitch. It's often the first place you get it is the last place it disappears. Also "fat isolation" is a myth. You burn fat throughout your entire body when you exercise, so changing your diet significantly, cutting down your calories and exercising over an extended period (months) is really the only way to do it.

tl;dr create a calorie deficit over a good span and change your diet or it will come right back.

exercise + diet = less fat everywhere

Doesn't matter if you run, jog, bike, lift weights, swim, climb, do push-ups, squatz, crunches etc, it's all exercise, it all burns calories and gets your heart working, so the fat that's stuck to you will melt off all over if you just keep at it no matter which one of those exercises you do.
