blackheads Anonymous
Hello /fit/, I've had these blackheads on my nose for awhile now, and I want to get rid of them. Can someone recommend good ways in dealing with them.

Pic related, but not mine.

Squeeze? I cant seem to squeeze any shit out. Maybe I'll give the 3M scotch tape a try.

For gods sake you can't get rid of blackheads by squeezing them
You'll squeeze out the current ones, the pores will widen, and eventually they'll fill up again even bigger than before

There's really no choice but to leave them alone

Use a sewing needle (clean it with a lighter or heat treatment so it is sterile) to gently poke and then dig or stab and lift out the black dirt. Once you get the hang of it you can dig it out quickly.

Then splash on ice-cold water and that closes up the pores.

There's no cure for acne or blackheads from what I've found. Best to just leave it alone.

Important: To the best of your ability, rush these steps. Except for waiting for peroxide to dry or moisturizer to absorb, you should move between steps as soon as you feel you've accomplished the mission of the step(pore opening, cleansing, etc), INCLUDING the squeezing. The more efficient your procedure is, the less chances you give your skin cells to die.

Steam or use warm/hotish water to open up the pores(steam~10 min, water 30sec-2min). Use a little light cleanser to get the ball rolling on breaking down the oils. Rinse after 10-20sec of applying. Keep your face wet or moist.

At this point, your pores should be ready for the squeezing that may ensue. Do this in front of a mirror. Experiment with your fingertips/fingernails to find the correct amount of pressure needed. To the best of your ability, DON'T break the skin or go to the point where you see blood. If a pore is too hard to squeeze, don't force it.

At this point, your face may be cooling down and your pores might be beginning to close up again, so do a quick warm/hotish water rinse. Then, break out an exfoliation cleanser and apply for 10-15sec. Note: Even now, don't scrub hard, lightly brush your fingertips against the skin. Minimize skin death/damage, but maximize pore opening/emptying under that parameter. Rinse. Pat dry.

After this, take some alcohol to it (benzoyl peroxide solution, between 2.5 and 5%, such as from Proactiv or the acne.org treatment). Use as recommended on the bottle.

As soon as that dries, and it must be dry, load up some non-comodogenic, pore minimizing moisturizer. Start off with small quantities, lightly apply with the tip of 1 finger, let it absorb, lightly apply, let it absorb, etc etc. Repeat until your face no longer feels dry, or you can feel some oil that hasn't absorbed. Depending on your mood or the time of day, you can load up on more moisturizer. For example, at night, using a little extra will definitely hold you through the night and keep it moist. During the day, you probably want mimimum shinyness, but you should never feel dry. If necessary, keep some moisturizer with you and apply when necessary.

NOTE: Depending on your skin sensitivity etc, you will have to experiment with the frequency of these squeeze cleanses. Sensitive skinned people should practice this no more than once or twice a week, whereas if you've got more robust skin, you might be able to get away with 3 times. Make sure that you are still washing your face with a cleanser, applying peroxide (not necessary but recommended), and moisturizing every morning and night. This will prevent buildup, and it will keep the stuff in your nose from "solidifying", so it will come out easier in future. If you're worried about redness or irritation, try it for the first time before bed.

Also! Once you've established a steady routine that you believe works reasonably well(after more than a few weeks of trying it out), then you can either a) up the dosage of peroxide, or add some kind of pore-strip or extra pore minimizing measures.

one final note: regular moisturizing routine slows the production of natural oil, which is the stuff bacteria craves.

Pretty crap actually, if you read the fluff they put on the adverts, every fucking moisturiser out there is non-commodogenic et cetera et cetera et cetera.

Personally I'd just go for the pore strips.

I've found that squeezing out the blackheads doesn't work all that well. Instead I'll put one finger on either side of my nose and pull the skin taut. This method clears out more blackheads at one time than squeezing does.

Get a facial.

Good luck finding a place that gives facials to guys though. Lots of places are female exclusive.

Or, wash your face with Spectro Jel.

Could also try St. Ives Apricot Scrub, works for some.
