Beer and Fitness?? Anonymous
Hey fit. I work out but i also drink couple times a week. Can i drop fat and gain muscle drinking regularly, or should i chose one or the other.

I work out hardcore and i eat good. Will beer put my train to success on the fail road?

Beer has a lot of calories, but if you incorperate some cardio and only drink socially (read: not with meals) then you might be safe. Don't quote me on this though.

Depending on the beer, about 2.5 beers equals 1 big mac in calories, so consider your question replacing beer with big macs, how does that sit with you?
>> OP
i may drink 2-3 times a week and i drink up to 7 beers. I am thinking thats a bit much if i want to be serious about fitness. Amirite?

And how does alcohol on its own affect weight loss and muscle repair?

Like whiskey and vodka? About 80cal per shot, double that if you're having it with soda.

I was under the impression alcohol increased aromatase and reduces secretion of testosterone.

the liver is what turns the body's fat into energy, when you consume alcohol it has to stop and shift gears and burn off the alcohol.

It does shit for weight loss and muscle repair. In fact, it only hampers it.

Google how many calories are in a beer.

Alcohol fucks around with your body, its a poison. I'm not going to explain it because:

A) I just finished my weights & HIIT, i'd rather masturbate and have lunch.
B) Wonderful website called google.

tl;dr - Regular alcohol does not work when cutting/bulking.

i'm on the same page.

i do work out hard, and have been shedding fat and gaining muscle over the last 9 months. there have been improvements, albeit slow.

thing is: fitness and appearance don't rule my life. as far as i'm on my own, i don't deviate an inch from my exercise plan and diet.
if i'm with friends (i.e. having fun) i'm having fun and anything goes (dancing all night when i should be getting rest, throwing a bbq party, getting wasted on alcohol or drugs or just staying in couch all day watching films and snacking). i work, i study and i exercise, so when i have time to spend with the people i love, it is an unvaluable luxury and enjoying it (whatever it means) becomes top priority.

>TL;DR it'll slow your progress, but life needs to be enjoyed too.

OK, lets say I have 1 4oz serving of red wine a day.

That's about half of the 'two drink' allowance that is considered normal. It's about two inches of wine in an average wine glass, once per day.

How bad is this if I am currently a skinnyfat trying to clean-bulk?

is clean-bulking your top priority in life, beyond health, and enjoying yourself? if it is, no wine for you.

if it isn't, relaxing in the evening with a glass of wine sounds awesome. do it even if you're cutting, bulking, dieting or whatever

if u change ur beer drinking to wine drinking it will be alot healthier for you.

a glass or red wine a night is actually good for you, so keep drinking it because the antioxidants from grapes are good for you. Just dont overdo it.

Drinking liquor is even better for you.

or you could just eat grapes

I don't see a problem with drinking beer a few times a week. Understand that without it, your progress would be faster, but like it's been said, you still need to enjoy life once and while, and if alcohol or drugs (maybe both?) is how you have fun, then do it. Everything in moderation.
