Reps are repetitions of an exercise. Example, the pushup, you go down and up, thats one rep.
Sets are a certain number of repetions done in one sitting. Example, you do 20 repetitions of pushups and stop, thats one set.
I try to aim for 6-12 repetitions on upper body exercises and 8-20 repetitions on legs and 20-40 repetitions on abs.
Also I do 3-4 sets per body part.
