Hello /fit/,

How many yards or meters should a beginner and/or intermediate swimmer be able to do in an hour?

Or should I say, how many should they aim for?

Thanks.

I'm an experienced, (if not amazing) swimmer and I do about 2,000 meters in a half hour, so you ought to be able to do that in a full hour, but it depends on a number of factors. I would recommend against swimming for long stretches of time like that and would advise you to instead vary your workout with sprints and different strokes over the course of an hour.

Thanks for the perspective.

I guess that puts me on track with ~1500 meters at 45 minutes.

I started less than a month ago with no previous cardio or other type of workout for the last year.

if you are a beginner, work on your form first. once you get your breathing, kicking, hand entry and positioning right, you can figure out what you can do in an hour.

tldr bad form saps strength; work properly
