fatty here. 5'11 185.

Is HIIT better than, say, 60 minutes of running at 85% HR (175-178 bpm) ?

I've been doing/failing to do HIIT for the past 3 weeks but it's pretty much torture. I do 30 seconds on / 40 seconds rest but can only keep that up for 5-6 cycles.

Should I continue struggling with HIIT or will the regular cardio suffice?

( Note that I am keeping a good HR and I can probably up it to 2 hours with no problems. )

I personally do steady state cardio for 60 mins, but that is because I'm still heavy, and I plan on using HIIT in 5 weeks or so once my body has completely adapted to this. Um, if you're leaner, try HIIT, stick it out. You're supposed to start with a 5 minute warm up, then do 4 minute cycle (1:1), then a 5 minute cool down. Then work your way up from there until you can handle 15 minutes.

Regular cardio will suffice if you really aren't getting any progress, however 85% is too high of a heart rate for a 45-60 minute workout.

To be honest, the benefits of HIIT over SSC are minimal...

inb4 a millions faggots crying but I've read a lot of articles that say this.

just go out and jog. not on a treadmill thats going to hold your hand like your a little baby, actually outside with skincancer from sun etc etc...oh yea and when i say go out and jog i don't mean walk for half the time i mean fucking go jog, and if you do need to catch your breath, you never ever ever ever sit down NEVER, until your done. if you must walk, i still do sometimes just to catch my breath but i think i have asthma or something so get over it pansy

try to work on your pecs to by doing pushups or something and find an ab routine to do and do each of these at least twice a week so people won't have to suffer looking at your shit jiggle around for more then a few months.

then you can either
A) Bulk
B) Cut
-or-
C) Do a barrel roll
I prefer C beacuse bulking and cutting requires a lot of fucking weights and shit.

The benefits of HIIT are much better than SSC for overall health. The benefits of HIIT over SSC are minimal when your immediate goal is weight loss.

I wouldn't recommend HIIT for any fatties. You should have a minimum level of fitness before you start trying that shit.

Everyone gets so caught up in this meta-level pseudoscience bullshit that they forget the single most important thing is that you're actually DOING exercise.

Whatever you do, it's going to benefit you for both health and weight loss. Just do something that makes you sweat and breathe hard.

Not op, but neither my brother nor I can hold a jog for any reasonable amount of time. I know you might think anybody can but in HS I was usually the *last* boy to finish the mile, only ahead of the girl who fake fainted for drama and lulz and the uber-slut. We're both skinny too - got some kind of terrible cardio genes. Once I got a HR monitor I found out that to run a mile in under 10 minutes, my HR was usually over 200 (omg higher than theoretical max). I wish there was some hax to fix it.

tldr: if I try to jog, even at 5MPH, my HR will rise until I absolutely winded and can't do it any more (216 is the highest I've gotten)

I didn't say I was using a treadmill and I've never heard of people going out for a jog and sitting down.

Yea, if the benefits of HIIT are negligible (for weight loss) then I'd really rather stick to my regular cardio.

My point was that my heart rate is faster than it should be for SSC, and I read somewhere that 40-60 minute jog/runs with that HR range are better than HIIT.

Keep trying. Again and again, never quit. When I started, I couldn't do more than 1/8th of a mile at maximum effort without getting winded and my heart pounding like crazy. A year later, I ran a marathon.
