does /fit/ think there is any net gain in the consumption of caffeinated drinks?

It's well known caffeine is a CNS stimulant. But I'm of the opinion that there's no free energy lunch. You feel great shortly after drinking coffee, only to crash later. In other words, I think you're just borrowing energy from the future, and you need to keep drinking the stuff to ward off withdrawal effects (fatigue, bad mood, headache, etc.).

To put it another way: If my power level is normally 9000, will drinking caffeine regularly put me over 9000 or will it just result in, say, 9500 energy in the morning while drinking it, 8500 in the afternoon crash, 9400 after I refuel, 8300 in th evening crash, etc.
