Hey /fit/

I've been lurking here a few months, but now I have a question.
I recently had a knee operation (I am now in physiotherapy), so I'm not allowed to run for the next few months at least.
I can walk short distances (about 20 mins)before my knee feels sore and swollen.

Any suggestions on good cardio workouts? I'm doing some light cycling now at the gym but find it terribly boring. (Although this is only as a complement to strength training I've been doing anyways).
Suggestions on any funner ways to work out without overstraining my knee?

Tl;dr: I fucked up my knee. How does I keep excercising?

Get a bike, and do REAL cycling. Also, do hills. If possible, do it in San Franciso. You'll have beastly calves and won't kill your knees in the process. Also, MP3 player - do you have one?

Cycling on an open road. Try an iPod, they work wonders for all of us.

is harder on knees than running

i'd say outdoor cycling is your best bet (not mountain biking, though... that's also fairly tough on the knees)

be thankful that you can do cycling.

I have an mp3, but I find it doesn't help much. Any good music suggestions?
I was actually considering getting a bike to get around faster (I usually walk). Should I invest in a good one, or just a second-hand one? $ is an issue.

$ is an issue. I'd have to get a pool membership :( I heard swimming is bad for joints though?

Guess I'm sold! Guess I should invest in a bike.

rowing.

swimming actually isn't very hard on your joints (other than the fact that they'll be cooler while you swim than they would be while you cycle... so for absolutely hardcore 50M sprint swimmers, it might do a little damage... but swimming is also good)

Wal-mart usually has fairly decent bikes for extremely cheap (<$200.) Don't listen to cyclefags that will tell you you need something more expensive, my bike cost me $140 and it has been quite adequate for getting around and general exercise.

As for music, anything with a good beat you can get into is all I can say...personally I listen to a lot of Saliva and random jrock.

So cycling outdoors it is. Just need to get that bike and find a place with less cars...
