What does /fit/ think of the Strong Lifts 5x5 Beginner Strength Training Program?http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5-beginner-strength-training-program/I've just started a membership at a gym but so far have just gone in and done cardio, but I'd like to start lifting soon, I'm 5'11, 150lbs with little muscle and wanted to know if /fit/ had any experience with the program.
lots of people on /fit/ swear by it so it must be goodi came up with something that works for me
>>326809the key to the whole program is starting slow and focusing on strict technique the first few weeks. seriously if its your first time ever weight training DO NOT SKIP AHEAD. You will struggle later when you have bad form and might hurt yourself. To gain muscle eat 500 above your daily recommended calories. Protein shake after your workout. Cut out the crap in your diet. No sugar unless its from fruits. Drink moar water.
why not DeFranco's 'westside barbell for the skinny bastard' version 3 or 4. that'll do you great as well, arguably better.in the beginning, everything works, enjoy
Its good for starting out and getting base strength, after maybe 6 months, start experimentingORmove onto Stronglifts 5x5 intermediateI'm doing the latter right now
>>326973different workout routines give different results. can you show me some examples of what a person will look like after using this workout?
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=712752I think "starting strength" is the best beginner program. 5x5 is too many sets and its essentially just another variation on the same idea. Starting strength may be one of the best ways to start lifting. Once you have made it past your big initial gains something like, west side for skinny bastards or any of teh common bodybuilding split routines will work much better for you. But all of these will be more effective if you do starting strength and really get yourself in the groove of lifting appropriately heavy weight.
>>327265So use Starting Strength prior to 5x5 or West Side Skinny Bastard then, not just Starting Strength then something intermediate correct?
>>327344My point is merely to start with starting strength or any other strenght oriented program. from there you can choose a program that fits your particular goals and really make it work for you
