I just got back from the gym and well...I need some advice.

I'm trying to get some muscle definition around my core area. I got on this machine that lets you set a certain weight, hold the handles and lean forward, kind of like a crunch but standing up. I set the weight to 50lbs and did 100 reps but I'm still not feeling anything.
More weight or more reps?

I'm already doing cardio by the way.
Picture unrelated.

don't worry, you'll see the abs once you lose enough weight

The abdominals are muscles. You don't do 100 barbel curl reps if you want to get your arms pumped.
Treat your abs as normal muscles. Raise the weight, fewer reps.

How about getting off the machines and doing some bodyweight exercises. There are many, many variations of crunches and leg lifts.

Try this: Suspend yourself from a pull-up bar (Don't straighten your elbows all the way, it's bad for your tendons) Slowly lift your legs up to at least 90 degrees and lower them just as slowly, so you don't sway. See how many times you can do that. It fucking burns when you get to double digits

yeah, no. the abs are postural muscles so the logic doesn't transfer that easily. generally, they respond both to high volume as well as high intensity. it should be noted that endurance in the lower back and abs is linked to prevention of back injury.
