Hey /fit/,

Is there a difference between running outside and running on a treadmill?

One is outside and the other isn't. Unless the treadmill is outside. Which is retarded.

Ok, other than the obvious, is the workout basically the same?

depending on where this "outside" running is it might be harder or easier on your joints etc. But from a weight loss perspective they are the same.

Running outside is harder

On a treadmill your feet are moved by the treadmill as well as yourself, so it's easier to run at a faster pace. Also, there is no wind resistance on a treadmill.

Just run outside. The weather will make it harder (summer heat winter cold) but if you run on a 2-4mile track, as in a park or a trail, even if you get tired half way through you still have to walk/jog back. You can't just turn off the next mile you have to travel down like you can a treadmill.

Fresher air depending on where you are? I don't know, there are a lot of scare campaigns for air purifiers that say the air inside your house is more polluted than outside. Don't know how much truth there is to that.

You meat head spastics obviously aren't getting it..

You're obviously an expert on treAdmills. A good treadmill can create hill-like scenarios.

Im in the marines, know a thing or two about fitness ect, and even a 'enbankment' created on a treat mill isn't accurate to a out side run on a hill.

Also weather does have an effect, run in the rain, best to do.
