dear /fit/
whats a good ideal target goal for me? not realistic, but one of those "if i had any body what would it look like/what would i weigh". im doing some goal setting right now, but dont know what weight/size/strength i should be for my height. im 6'4, 20 years old, white male. i weight 265 now (was 285 little more than a month ago). im thinking an inshape 180 would be good, but im not sure. what do you think?

you need the help of other people to feed you your goals?

yes and no, i am just clueless as to what is healthy. in a sense i know what i want to look like, but in another i dont know what "normal" is to compare to what my goal is, to see if it is a realistic goal for me.

Whatever you want to look like is achievable, ask yourself what you want to look like, don't let other people tell you. They'll just want to mold you to their self-image of what is correct.

tl:dr everyone is going to tell you to be a powerlifter or a skinny fag

this is one of my friends in my fraternity (yeah i know, save the flaming). since im a big guy, 6'4 265 like i said, i think its unrealistic for me to be a skinny fag. im not even sure id WANT to be a skinny fag, i like the idea of having a sense of "i can overpower you if i want". i like having mass, but im way too unhealthy to like myself now. i think this is kinda what i want my goal to be, what does /fit/ think? i dont really want to be a big beefey meathead, just more in shape. is this a healthy goal for me to set?

6'4" 180 lbs. is probably way too skinny of an ideal. I'm 6', and at 170 lbs. with <8% body fat, it was pretty nice looking (but by no means really powerful). I also have a really wide frame, so for average framed people 165 might be more accurate. 200 lbs. lean would look good for 6'4".

I'm guessing you're only going for appearance too. If you're planning to play any sports, even for fun, you might want to focus on everything: power, speed, endurance, flexibility and coordination.

Pic related. 6'4" 215 lbs.

I don't know where you are getting this "healthy" shit from, a body type doesn't automatically determine your health. A gigantic powerlifter can have a healthier system than a supermodel, even though he eats fifteen times more and throws heavy weights all over himself.

Your friend has a normal body, and I see no reason why you couldn't achieve that easily.

Of course once you look like that, you'll then want to improve even more. Then the cycle begins.

in a sense, yes, appearence only. i played sports, but i dont anymore. i am decently athletic, any only do things like pickup street basketball games anymore. its always good to be fast and agile and strong, but its maily for my self esteem.

also thats why this whole post was made, is 180 a skinny fuck? is 200 more what i want? i have a vision in my mind what i want, but i want to have a more concrete goal as opposed to what i want to look like in my head.

180's going to look too skinny. Try for 200 with a low BF%. Before anything though, focus on dropping a good 50 lbs. first.

yeah im gonna take baby steps first, but im trying to formulate my ULTIMATE goal first, then break it down into smaller, more rewarding goals after.

also, what would be a good body fat %? i have no clue what percent looks like what, and which percents are healthy ect.

Bodyfat % is the answer to your questions.
Google "ideal bodyfat".

It's gonna tell you probably 8-12% is ideal.
If you're losing fat seriously, you'd expect to lose about 1% a week. So your first step is figure out where you're at now, eat your bodyweight x10 in calories, workout 6 times per week, and keep doing it 'til you're at 12 or so %. That's about it.

Also - save yourself a lot of confusion and go read _Body for Life_ - best starter book for fitness, IMO.

300 pounds, 15% bodyfat would be awesome
