Dear /fit/,

I've heard you should limit yourself to two servings of tuna a week due to mercury content or some shit. Is this true or BS? Tuna is one of the easiest ways to get fish regularly in my diet and I really wish I could eat it more often.

from wiki:
Nutrition and health

Canned tuna is a prominent component in many weight trainers' diets, as it is very high in protein and is easily prepared.

A can of tuna in oil contains about the Adequate Intake (AI) of the US Dietary Reference Intake of vitamin D for infants, children, men, and women aged 19–50 - 200 UI.

Canned tuna can also be a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, of which it sometimes contains over 300 mg per serving.[16]

A January 2008 report conducted by the New York Times has found potentially dangerous levels of mercury in certain varieties of sushi tuna, reporting levels "so high that the Food and Drug Administration could take legal action to remove the fish from the market."[17]

They both come from the ocean, dumbass. It's the same fish, sushi is just a higher grade in terms of flavor and texture.

That has nothing to do with mercury content, dipshit. Mercury will not magically fucking go away just because you cooked something. All ocean life is exposed to a lot of mercury because humans pollute the air with it as waste from things like burning coal and processing steel in mills. It rises to the clouds, gets stuck in the clouds, and comes back down as rain, the vast majority of which falls in the ocean. This has been happening since the industrial revolution.

Furthermore, sushi ONLY refers to the type of rice. There are plenty of sushi dishes that are completely meatless. Get cultured.

been going strong with 3 cans a day for 6 months and my dick still hasn't fallen off, it must be fine

First off, the bigger the fish, the higher the mercury content. The prize bigger fishes are what go to sushi, hence the higher mercury content. This is also a good reason to avoid albacore tuna if you are consuming lots of tuna.

It takes about 10 years to eat enough tuna to accumulate enough mercury to become a retard.
The main symptoms are uncontrollable muscle shakes, memory loss.

Tuna is particularly bad for mercury because they accumulate it up the food chain. Varies by stock though.

No, except for the fact that they're usually flavored and have added calories because of that. If you can find it plain, then go nuts.

I read:

"The benefits of eating fish are so sound that the American Heart Association recommends the general population eat fish twice a week. "

I eat it three times a week, on the days i do lots of strength training. A LOT of people at my gym eat it 3-6 times.. thats a bit much.. I stick to 2-3.

Go for it OP.
