i did squatz for the first time evar today. it fucking sucked. 5 sets of 12 with 10kg on either end of the barbell. im a pussy, but i'll get there by summer..

heres a thought, when listing how much you squat or lift in any way shape or form, do you add up the weights on either side of the barbell or just go for whats on one side?

Add them both up, plus what that bar itself weighs. If you're using an olympic barbell (the kind shown in the included pic), the bar weighs 45lbs. If you're using a different kind of barbell, well, it can vary wildly. If you're unsure, then just count up the total weight in plates. Just so long as you're keeping track of your progress.

5x5 is a good mixture between strength training and endurance.
with 10 or more reps you train too much on endurance and not enough on strength.

Eh, in terms of duration, you want to explode out of the hole as fast as possible with a heavy weight. Grinders are a bitch and depending on your fitness level, they can really wear you out and prevent you from doing more than 1-2 sets.

However, with the rep/set scheme you're on, it's a matter of there being many ways to skin a cat. I do suggest 5x5 for a couple months, especially if you're a beginner, but pyramid schemes like you're doing are effective if you're doing it correctly. I've done 5x5, 10x2, 10x1, 4x8, pyramids and a bunch of other set/rep schemes and it all came down to mainly diet and getting out of it what I put in. Just focus on heavy, compound movements and you'll be golden.

Maybe, but it's easier to push yourself further on the deadlift if you don't have a spotter, because, worse-case, you can always drop the bar on the floor. I've been training solo for some time now. Plus, Deadlifts work more muscles all together than SKWOTZ all together.

I don't do squatz anymore.

Almost got the 1-rep max record for my school for the 130 weight class back when i wrestled. Was 1-rep maxing at 250 and felt confident i co uld up it another 25lbs even though i had to strain so hard i couldn't feel anything else to get my last 1, and was about to up it to 275 (record was 275) when my coach told me to quit for the day.

Woke up the next day, my whole back jolted with pain every time i moved it (which you move your back for a LOT of things, from changing your posture in a chair to just walking), and my lower back has hurt ever since whenever i do any kind of squat / lower-back-specific workout :(

Guys I need help with my SQUATZ :(

My usual practice is 4 sets/6 reps with 185 lbs. as a base. I have trouble lowering those last few inches to parallel. It's like I can handle 185 to about 75 degrees, but after that, I hit a point of no return and bottom out.

However, when I drop it down a bit to 165, I can easily hit parallel, but the whole exercise just feels too easy.

Please help I've been stuck at 185 for almost 2 months :(
