how do you guys deal with your anger? sometimes i get so fed up with life and the people around me that i get terrible migraines and punch and stab holes in the wall. this can't good.

I constantly picture myself shooting myself in the temple. Sometimes I do it in the mouth but then I realize that you can probably either survive that if you don't do it right or at least die a slow and painful death. I don't think these thoughts are too healthy though.

I've effectively cut myself off from anger except for a few circumstances. Being treated unjustly is the only thing that pisses me off. When I say pissed I mean hurling chairs across a room pissed. Other than that I can't get angry. Ever.

One thing I've noticed is that anger isn't some magical liquid that you can bottle up and save for later. You can only use it when you get it.

A few years back I threw a friend against the wall so hard that he almost passed out because he'd been pissing me off for 20 minutes and I finally snapped. Now I try to vent before it comes that far.

I punch something. If I can it's my punching bag, if not it's a wall or door. My knuckles are fucked up for a while and they remind me not to lose my temper.

I've never punched a person in anger though, only in self defense. I don't go around starting fights, and most people who know me would never even guess I have a temper because I'm usually so mellow and relaxed.

I play out scenarios in my head about yelling, screaming, or maybe just beating the shit out of or holding a gun to the person and trying to teach them a lesson.. if I'm pissed at a person, per say. I practice these, and sometimes I lose sleep over them because it just doesn't stop and I can't make it stop, and even if I'm not mad, I play conversations throughout the day in repeat sometimes and my mind drifts when I'm concentrating. Well, anyways, partially related but I just kind of went off rambling.

tl;dr: Nothing, and usually confront my issues calmly and in a delicate, yet effective manner may it be with people or personal issues. If it can't be delicate, then straight-forward and forget the sugary coating.

some others in this thread have figured it out as well. you can't just expect to be able to vent your anger physically. you could easily spend hours punching the wall and still be just as angry as you were. its all mental. you have to decide that being mad isn't worth the trouble, once you've come to that conclusion your anger will melt away. but if you expect that if you will just be able to punch something and have it go away without changing your attitude first, you'll still be angry afterward or just continue to punch things.

tl;dr it's mental, you have to decide not to be angry.

So with that out of the way, rather than getting angry at whatever is getting you down, think about it on a massive level, don't do the whole "rage tunnel vision" look at it and realize whatever has you pissed off will be over with so soon that you'll back on it and say "wow I was mad at that?"

I used to get very destructive with my anger. I have a short temper and often times, I'd let it get the best of me. Which led to me punching holes in just about every door and wall in my house. I try not to do that anymore, as I already have enough doors to replace and holes to patch up. So I just smoke a cigarette or some hookah and usually just bottle it up. It's slipped out a few times in a form of severe depression.

The only way I've really been able to calm it down lately though is practicing Zen meditation and or keeping myself distracted with shit so I don't think about what's pissing me off.
