how do you lose weight and build muscle on a vegetarian diet? Is it just a lot of beans and rice or what?
>> Anonymous
You can't lose weight and build muscle at the same time.
>> Anonymous
You lose weight because you generally eat more fiber and less fattening foods.

you can easily lose fat and gain muscle at the same time during your first 6 or so month of training. even after than it's possible but it becomes much much harder.

too many people apply rules to themselves that are reserved for established lifters

the largest and strongest mammals on Earth are 100% raw plant eaters. The gorilla, the elephant, the hippopotamus, the giraffe, the rhinoceros, the horse, the bull, the buffalo, and so on, are all 100% raw plant eaters! A gorilla has the strength equivalent to bench-pressing 4,000 pounds.

And they have long intestines, and eat tons of food every day.

You are a human (if you are a furry yiff in hell), like a pig you are omnivore.

Stop being a fag.

They have long intestines because what the plants they eat are fairly hard to digest and absorb.

Humans are built to be omnivores but, thanks to thousands of years of genetically engineering plants we have the luxury of not eating meat if we choose to do so.

Of couse today you can survive with no meat. But a japanese diet is better for your health.

Vegetarian diet will decrease your mortality in the first 5 years but it will increase again if you keep vegetarian more time.
Here is some science for you
http://www.ajcn.org/cgi/content/full/70/3/516S

I don't mind if some people don't like to eat meat, the same way that I don't like to eat tofu, but most of vegetarians justify their taste on lies and spread false informations.

If you want to get some muscle, eat some muscle! You are not a cow!

I skimmed a bit over that study and one thing that struck me was that they really did not know why vegetarians who followed the diet for less than 5 years had a higher mortality rate and they stated that it might have been caused by dietary change due to illness.

Its still interesting and I keep my eye open for any follow-up studies to figure out why vegetarians only live longer if they do it for 5+ years.

btw I am not>>189362

I just decided to join in the discussion.

How vegetarian?

Do you drink milk/eat eggs? If so Eggs, milk, cheese and yoghurt will be invaluable sources of protein. Whey also if you want a supplement.

Fish also...

Else have a look through here:
http://laurensfitness.com/2008/03/17/protein-natural-sources/

You can get all your amino acids from vegetarian options, but it is harder and proven to be less effective for muscle gain, presumably because the body finds it difficult to actually utilise the proteins. But seriously... check:

Since our organism doesn't absorbs vegetal nutrients very well it can stay fine for some time (5 years?), until get some mild deficiency of vitamins and minerals. (we don't need much meat, just a little every week)

Just what I think, I'm not sure about this but seems a logic explanation.
