I'm a skinny guy that more recently started putting on some weight. I'm 6'1, 165 lbs. I used to be 145 lbs... I was way too skinny, but I had the muscular look of a guy that didn't have much muscle, but also no fat to cover it. I'm working out now to loose some of the fat that I've put on and to gain some muscle.

One thing I really need advise on: building my calves. I have very skinny chicken calves, which contrasts my decent sized quads and torso. I hate it, and would really like some advise on exercises that can make them bigger (but not like the picture). Anyone have suggestions or success stories?

There aren't a whole lot of calf isolation exercises out there so be sure to introduce as much variety as possible. Calves respond best at high reps (10-20)

When doing standing or seated calf raises, turn your toes inward and outward a little to hit the different heads of the calves. So one set toe in, one set neutral, one set toe out.

Another option is calf dumbbell raises. Grab a dumbbell with your ankles and contract them up.

Be sure that you're doing this on a bulking phase, when you're getting bigger in general. Calves are notoriously stubborn growers

Yeah, I've heard this is true about calves. People also say they are genetic and are pretty well set for life without drastic measures. I'm not really planning on bulking, I'd like to gain muscle and stay lean. If I got huge it would look weird with my long neck and semi-smallish head and boy face (even though I'm almost 23). Plus, I want to work on athletic ability along side lean muscles building. With my goals do you think correcting my thin calves problem would be possible?
