Hey /fit/, I have a major problem. I can't seem to increase my running distance. No matter how hard I try my running distance doesn't seem to change, I just can't push myself beyond a certain point.

The only advantage I've had with months of cardio training is a decreased resting time before I get back to my normal heart rate.

Any ideas?

Tried it. Once I hit 2.5 miles though I just can't keep moving, I have to stop.

I've tried it several times in several different weather conditions. No matter what, my heart always goes above 180bpm and I have to stop or I quickly feel fatigued, light headed, and sometimes extremely close to some sort of heat stroke
>> Anonymous
What if you run 2,5 miles, stretch, re-hydrate and then try a little whlie later?
>> Anonymous
Your body has reached the point where it actively starts to use fat as fuel.

It's something that long distance athletes need to get used to.
>> Anonymous
>>325078
I can do that, no problem. But the thing is I want to increase my distance so that I don't have to stop. I can't run with my friends because they'll run six or seven miles non-stop (they've been running for a few more years though).
>> Anonymous
>>325082
Distance running dogs don't use their body's fat for a long time which is why they can run for so long, or so I've read. But my body is unfortunately not setup that way so I have no choice.

Anyway to help push my body along? Speed up my metabolism maybe?
>> Anonymous
I weigh 245 lbs.

I once hit 10 miles without stopping.

Now granted, I had an average speed of 6 mph, but really.

10 fucking miles.

Beat that, 240+lbs /fit/
>> Anonymous
>>325090
Isn't 6mph a jog? I'm talking about full on sprinting.

4.5 mph is a fast walk. 6 mph is a jog.

Fuck no I couldn't do that. 180lb here. I would die after about 3 miles.
>> Anonymous

Ok stubby, 6mph is a fast walk for non-midgets.
>> Anonymous
>>325086
It's basically just something that your body needs to get used to doing.

Once you get to that point, try to force yourself to go for another mile or so and try to continue doing that for a while. The only way to get passed this is to to get your body used to burning fat for energy, there isn't anything else really.

"[The] definition of jogging is simple: If you are moving SLOWER THAN 6 miles per hour you are jogging,..."

FUCKING OWND.

Technically, anything SLOWER THAN 6 mph is jogging...

...but >6mph DOESN'T INCLUDE 6mph.

I was running bitch HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHH
>> Anonymous
Slow down a bit but don't stop for a few hundred yards then slowly start speeding up again. And stop being a pussy.
>> Anonymous
>>325106
Like I said, I can't do it. I start overheating, or I just can't breathe properly, or I get too tired and can't move on anymore (I don't mean tired, I mean like it's physically hard to move my limbs).

>>325108
His definition of jogging is shit. Walking 1 mph is jogging? Not moving at all is jogging? Sorry, but we'll need an actual definition here

Tried asking your friends for tips? They sound like they may know. Perhaps one of 'em had the same problem.

Either way, the most important part is that you stay fit, right? Perhaps you shouldn't focus so much on this ONE flaw but also start exercising in other ways. :)
>> Anonymous
>>325120
Actually, your body can do that. You just think it can't, that is the point where you get two options:
/fit/ ), man the the fuck up and continue running,
/b/ ), give up and go jerk off.
>> Anonymous
>>325120
Yo whyte boy! All yall gotta do is jus start runnin from da Popo, ya feel me dawg? Aww yeah, dats how we stays in shape.
>> Anonymous
>>325128
I have, but they don't know what the problem is. My doctor can't seem to find any major problem that would stop me from improving.

>>325129
So I should just continue running when I start seeing spots, start losing my balance, stop thinking straight, and so on?
>> Anonymous
>>325131

That's what every marathon runner gets through at a point in the course.

Your body does not want to burn fat for energy, you must learn to tell it to STFU and burn it.

What's wrong, my chocolate comrade? Feeling a tad bit confused?

Don't worry! Here, have some fried chicken. I hear that is considered a prized delicacy in your culture.

Do intervals.
Push yourself to lactic threshold and then jog then lactic threshold... etc. for a short distance.
I've heard, heard that it works for runners as it does with cyclists to help increase distance and speed over the course of time.
>> HERE'S THE SOLUTION
>>325068
Run as far as you can and then stop and walk for a while.

Then start running again.

Then stop and walk.

ON AND OFF AND ON AND OFF UNTIL "YOU AIN'T GOT NO LEGS, LIEUTENANT DAN."
>> Anonymous
I had the same problem for a long time. Then I found a good stretch of street that had several small to medium sized hills. After running those for a few weeks I found my normal running distance increased.

>feel fatigued
fatigued? while running? no shit!

but seriously sleep right, stop eating shit, and for god sake ease of on that pepsi or whatever the sht you drinking

also
>I can't run with my friends because they'll run six or seven miles non-stop (they've been running for a few more years though)
six or seven miles in 3+ years? tell them they need to man up too
>> Anonymous
>>325184
Fatigued is different from tired. When I say fatigued I mean I don't have the energy to walk, and even sitting takes too much work.

I only drink fruit juices and water. I only eat salads, nuts, and tuna or chicken. All fresh and cooked at home.

What's wrong with six or seven miles? They're not trying to be athletes, they run for their own health. That's plenty considering time constraints

An hero, do a barrel roll, ect.

Or, you could just
ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWA

>>325188

Stop drinking fruit juice, eat turkey instead of chicken, it is cheaper and leaner.

Also squats
>> Anonymous
how much is a mile in kilometers?
>> Anonymous
Try with everything you have to keep going and after a short time you'll start finding it easier. It's kind of like a wall you reach as your body adjusts to long distance. If you struggle through another 0.5 - 1 mile you'll start noticing it getting easier and almost autopilot-like.
>> Anonymous
If you give everything and break that barrier you'll find it no problem running for as long as you want until you get bored.
>> Anonymous
>>325188
the only way you wouldnt really had strength to sit if it was something wrong with your heart, but since you say doctors says its allright, than you need to man the fuck up. if you do all the thing you say you do and expetience all that shit than you exagerating and need to stop being a pussy.
when you push yourself over the edge all these "fatigued" bulshit wil go away since endorphines and other stuff will kick in.
>What's wrong with six or seven miles?
its wrong cause doing it for so long and still making not really good results. it would be only natural to improve the distance. seven miles is not really a good improvement. if ofc the werent atrophied deformed dispropotrional midgets when they started.

The problem I have with running is my breath. I'm never exhausted, I just have bad control.

I can use an elliptical machine at a fast pace for over an hour. I have cycled up to 100miles in a day and I can walk and swim for hours.

I don't know why I can't run for more than 2 miles without suffocating
>> Anonymous
>>325200
i dont see why juices will be the problem here...
i am a runner myself (12,5 miles at 8-9mph) and while i dont drink juices myself(dont like the taste) i dont really see why would they be bad
>> Anonymous
>>325238
i actually had the same problem couple of months ago, but that was because of my sleep being fucked up, gave it a week to stabilize and the problem was gone
>> Anonymous
>>325238
Sorry mate, sounds like you'll never beat that barrier. I used to have a boyfriend with a similar problem. eventually i had to dump him and carry on with my own workout routine where i dont watch my heart rate and distance so closely and JUST DO IT.

Juices have nothing to do with it. Just keep pushing yourself OP, eat plenty of carbs beforehand and keep well hydrated and see if you improve.

Joe Frazier says to set a goal of 3 miles per day, -everyday. just run or walk it as much as you can, preferably with work boots or some weight attachment, and EVENTUALLY you'll be able to do it without stopping.

I'm no the track team and for conditioning we jog about 6-7/mph for 2 hours 2 times a week.. I want to see you do it you fucking cunt.

I love how people on here talk so much smack like they run 30mph for an hour or squat 700 lbs..

fuck I hate you so much /fit/

Well, I tried running past what I can normally do. I passed out at 2.8 miles and my friends had to call an Ambulance.

I got treated for hyperthermia. The doctors said there is no reason that they could find that would stop me from running past 2.5 miles, but they didn't do anything very in-depth.

I was extremely well hydrated and I sweat like a beast, but nothing. No improvement :/

what do you wear, where do you live and what time do you run?

>>326283
I wear running shoes, shorts, and a wifebeater.

I live in a pretty cool climate. When I first ran it was 61 degrees (6AM, so right before my OP), the second run was at 12PM (during my two hour break) in a school gym with a temperature of 73 degrees
>> Anonymous
>>326284
Nah, no asthma. Basic scans by my GP and the hospital doctors show absolutely no abnormalities in my system.

I'm gonna ask my insurance company to approve of real in-depth testing to see what's going on.

Don't do 2-adays? Also if its a heat/sweat thing you might consider getting some running specific socks and possibly some more breathable shoes.
