Stop being fat and you wont have to worry about it.

After using any equipment/machine, wipe your fucking sweat off it using a towel.

Most fitfags are either former fatties or skinnies, they understand you not being in the best shape, they worked to get where they are.

Etiquette?

Wipe down the machines when you're done, ask for a spot if you need one (most people are more than happy to oblige,) and don't try and pick up chicks.

Other than that, most fatties get self conscious at the gym thinking that other people are staring at them going "lolfattie" when in reality, no one gives a shit and at least you're trying to better yourself.

Good luck.

Don't clank the weights.
Don't make loud grunts.
Keep out of other people's personal space... if you can smell them or they can smell you, you're too close.
Don't walk around in the locker room naked.
Don't get naked period if you're hairy.

fitfag here, you have nothing to worry about. Fitfags are narcissistic, they only look at themselves in the mirror and sometimes at ppl more fit than themselves and hot girls.

Fatties in the gym are never stared at or ridiculed, it's more of a 'good for him/her' type attitude, you can ask fitfags for advice they're happy to talk about fitness.

Lol, I dunno about that brah, and as a fitfag it doesn't sound like you've been on the other side. As someone who used to be morbidly obese, I can tell you that when I first started going to the gym, people would give me that 'Why are you even trying?' smirky look.

Bring a small towel if you plan on sweating.

You were obviously doing it wrong.

yeah seriously, whenever i see a really heavy guy/girl at the gym I always just think supportive/positive thoughts regarding them.

I think most people in the gym are there for the same reason, even if their progress is much farther than others. Everyone started somewhere, so it's easy to relate.

Research your routine, and don't gimp an exercise just so you can do it with a higher weight. No half squats, non-dead hang pull ups (unless you can't obviously), form is important. Other than that, what's already been said. Oh, and try and enjoy yourself.

Other than that what's already been said.

A fattie at gym is better than a fattie at McDonalds.

Whenever I see fat people on some machine I usually go "lol fat people" in my head, but that's about it.

Exactly! The only time I lol'ed at a fattie at the gym it was two OBESE black women who were drinking powerade, wearing sunglasses indoors and had their hair did, and were doing like 3 reps and then moving on to the next machine.

When I see a fat person doing cardio I don't really mind, but when they're doing something to gain muscle I smile because I just know they're going to look in the mirror, think they're getting even fatter because of the increased muscle below their fat, and quit.

this mis/fit/ is correct.

i try to get my buddies more involved in exercising all the time, and i can tell they are constantly comparing themselves to me, or to others in the gym.

i'll tell you the same thing i tell them: everyone's gotta start somewhere, and everyone's been a beginner at some point.

Easiest way to lose weight. Stop eating junk food, go whole grains, fresh simply seasoned meat, fresh fruit. Your energy levels WILL go up.

Then go swimming, cycling, yoga. Way more effective because of better energy.

I think it's great when I see fatties a the gym! Much more than the anorexic bitch on the stairmaster.

I wasn't in the greatest shape when I joined up 1.5 years ago, but now I blend in no problems. You'll also start feeling familiar with the equipment and the gym in general after a while; it will start to feel like 'your' gym. And I'm sure that if you're dedicated and show up several times a week, and the fitfags start to recognise you, they'll respect you for it.

Please don't wear spandex. A t-shirt at sweatpants works fine at the gym, especially for beginners.

Go for it OP!

I didn't think people like this existed (or could exist) on 4chan. This really made my day :)

yeah, a lot of beginners think gym people will laugh at them or something, that's what i thought when i started but since i'm such a stubborn piece of shit i decided if anyone looked at me i would make myself stare them down.

But as a 4 year gym veteran i can say this, nobody really cares, usually when i see a fattie i might look at them and think "go buddy! go!" and then i will make a mental note of them and track their progress throughout time,

i even occasionally eyeball people in the gym when i'm bored, but not in any bad way

It's funny too, because you know when the topic of weight comes up in discussions with their friends, they say something like 'BUT I WORK OUT FOR HOURS AND I'M STILL FAT'
