Physical Endurance and Fitness I Think I Feel a Miscarriage Coming On !PRvAKqH.Z6
I want to get into rock climbing.

First off, a general about me. I'm five eight, I weigh close to three hundred pounds, and my lifestyle is sedentary. I'm sick of being fat and unhealthy, so it's about time I slim down. I'm a big guy both fat wise and muscle wise, so a good portion of weight could be muscle mass - I don't want to lose that. But I'm not kidding myself, I'm a tad bit of a porker.

So here's my plan. No red meat. Gradually cut out soda in favor of tea. Train myself physically until I can do rock climbing of that magnitude, but first start out on indoor walls.

So, /fit/ have any experience with rock climbing and it's benefits? Also, diet suggestions as far as protein intake, etc.?

rock climbing is the shit.
i've only ever had a go on indoor walls, but its mad fun. serious full body workout, though your legs are supposed to do most of the work - if your arms are the only bit thats tired after a climb, you're doing it wrong.

as far as diet is concerned, eat healthy low fat protein and get carbs in ya, lay off the fatty unhealthy shit and do plenty excercise. you'll be fine in no time.

Something tells me rock climbing isn't meant for close to morbidly obese people who can't make a pullup...

A massive tad.

Seems like the hardest part at this point will be finding a rock climbing gym nearby.

NO. Cut out soda completely, drink water, or green tea, but mostly water.Go cold turkey with it pussy, it isn't a drug you need to slowly ween yourself off it is simply a drink full of empty calories.
Now as for the red meat thing, red meat is loaded with creatine and protein, don't buy into the vegitarian liars.
Now post a daily diet (with portion sizes) and one of us may try to work out the approximate calories that it contains.
You should probably do cardio on a rowing machine or in a swimming pool, low impact yet effective.

I can do pull ups just fine. And rock climbing is a lot different than pull ups anyhow.

You must have the back of Pudzian if you can do pullups (note the plural) at 300lbs

Anyway, yeah you need grip, shoulder and leg strength for rock climbing mostly.

Red meat is fine as part of a balanced and active lifestyle.

Anyone who can't eat it and stay healthy severely lost at the genetic lottery.

Fuck if I know. I'll count em today, but I used to do ten second pull sprints for football, and I wasn't that winded.

That was about six months ago though, so I dunno.

And I lost the genetic lottery massively.

depends on what rock climbing you want to do

rock climbing is pretty much all grip and finger strength and technique as oppose to alpine or mixed which is a combination of endurance, mental toughness, grip, strength, and technique.

there are a lot of 5.13+ climbers that are amazing (well you have to be to climb 5.13) but are not entirely fit at all, but how can this be? rock climbing is so dependent on finger strength that you could be an amazing climber but get trashed on a 2 mile run

I doubt how much you really understand about the chemistry of cholesterol. Do you even know the difference between HDL and LDL chemistry without using Google?

I went rock climbing with a friend of mine who's pretty much a veteran, and I fuckin loved it. It's hella fun, extenuating, and puts you through a massive workout.
Anyway my biggest issue was my forearms. After the first try at the rock, I felt like I couldnt hold my own dick. My hands were sore as hell. So I'd reccomend training the muscles involved in finger and hand strenght to anyone interested.

Also, really, if you are 300, dont even try. Not solely because of the wheight, but because of the bulk. You have to hug the wall more often than not, and you can't do that with a massive belly.
