Besides, Shooto offers the option for ground based fighting, but it also teaches you how to fight if you happen to get floored and can't get up for some reason immedeately, or if someone jumps you while you're down, etc. Also Shooto grapples don't just consist of ground based grapples, they have standing grapples too.
The thing is that street fights and brawls don't go as planned, so having a wide arsenal is better. For someone inexperienced in sf and brawls, robberies or whatever and your body is filled with adrenaline, slip ups will occur.
Shooto isn't just grapples (very common misconception), it's everything that works. Also the good thing about that is that you can pretty much freely create your own style.
MT is overrated and way too hyped. I'm not saying it's bad, but it's not as amazing as some people seem to believe.
