You should wait about 2-4 hours after eating before you work out, depending how big your last meal was. Your stomach uses a lot of blood to digest food so you won't be able to perform well while working out.

Eating after a workout is usually a good idea unless you're on a special plan. You need to refill your glycogen stores or your body that you just used to work out.

1 hour is good, 30 mins isn't going to kill you, but 2 - 4 hours is way too long. think about how long an advil takes to work, thats about when food starts to hit your bloodstream and up
