I've been trying to get healthier these last few months. Not super fit and cut mind you; I'm ok with having a bit of fat and actually find it more desirable to have some rather than being musclebound or bone thin, the former seeming a bit unnatural to me and the latter not possible with my body type unless I spent some time in a concentration camp. Basically, I took a look at my lifestyle and realized I was heading for an early grave without even having rockstar-style self destructive fun to show for it. No exercise, eating to excess with no vegetables or fruit in my diet, smoking like a chimney and drinking waaaaay too much booze.

So I bought an exercise bike and ride it for a half hour every day, I eat eat better and have regular meals instead of one big one after work, I take multivitamins and limit my drinking to the weekend. It's working great; I've started losing weight, I have more energy than I know what to do with and, even though I'm still a morbid bastard, I don't feel like I'm being crushed by some sort of melodramatic, existential despair all the time.

Always looking to make healthier choices for myself without giving up what I love, I started looking for a way to limit my salt intake without removing salt from my diet, since I like it so much. I've been experimenting with shaking out the amount of salt I would have put on my meal on a separate plate instead of the food itself and when I take a bite, I put the tip of my spoon/fork into the salt. The food has a pleasant saltiness and at the end of the meal 2/3rds of the salt I poured out is still on the plate. If you're a salt junkie like me, but are worried you might be doing your kidneys and intestines in with excessive usage, you might want to give it a try.
