Supposedly weighitng once a week is more statistically useful and best for people who tend to be neurotic about their weight, but daily weighing may help people keep focused better and be aware of their screwups faster. Just keep in mind that it's going to vary through the day for no particular reason; that's just how it works.
As for motivation - I find it helps to always think in terms of bodyfat %. That gives you a more firm, usefully quantified goal to shoot for.
