Is it ok to do pushups with dumbbells?

I don't mean with the dumbbells on its end, but while holding onto them.

It's a lot easier on my wrist.

It's OK, and might even be better, because if the dumbbells are round, they'll try to roll as you do the pushups. Preventing them from rolling uses your stabalizer muscles for balance.

If you have troubles with your wrists during pushups try forming a fist and doing pushups on your knuckles. If it's a hard floor, fold up a couple of towels for padding.

Stop being a pussy, your wrists will get stronger.

Go for it. They let you go deeper, too. I like the hexagonal ones, kind of a cheap substitute for push-up handles.

So does a loose vagina. Doesn't mean you want to though.

Op, try the perfect push-ups. But dumbells work too if you like that kinda thing.

>perfect push-ups

huge waste of money. and deeper pushups are better pushups, in almost every case.

I've read that deeper pushups target the pectorals more. Is that true? To do these with the chair you have to have your arms quite wide.

Having your arms wide will target your lats past parallel. Doing really deep pushups is a great way to turn push-ups from a targeted tri/chest routine into a full upper body workout. Your back will be hit on the way down, your chest will be hit on the way up.

When you say lats are you talking about Latissimus Dorsi?

Yup. You'll find that the upper body often works in opposites: what hits your triceps (push exercises) usually hits your chest, too. What hits your biceps (pull exercises) usually hits your lats/upper back, too. In this case, the "pull" exercise of a deep pushup (actually a "fall" exercise) is working against your bodyweight assisted by gravity, while the "push" exercise is working against your bodyweight AND gravity. So it's a full upper-body workout.
