Dear /fit/,

I'm 5'8, about 105-110 pounds, and started weightlifting a few months ago, because I got tired of people fucking with me because of my size (I was about 95 pounds before I started).

I took up StrongLifts 5x5, started with an empty bar (olympic) and gradually made my way to 80 lbs. But I was stuck, my skinny ass arms can't support the weight, especially for overhead pressing. I tried for 3 workouts straight, and couldn't do 5x5 with 80 lbs on OP. On benches, my wrists and arms just feel like the weight will fall right through them.

I'm just so pissed at myself, guys I know can bench 200 something and squat like 300, but I can't even get over 80 pounds (except for on squats and deadlifts, I can do a lot more than 80 on those). What the hell is wrong with me? Should I drink more whey, or just give up?

To give you an idea of how shit skinny I am, my wrists are a little over 2 inches wide.

How much do you squat and deadlift?

don't just eat more whey

eat more fucking EVERYTHING

I did 110 a few weeks ago, I could probably max out at about 120. However, I don't have a squat rack, so I do front squats, which I seem to have a harder time doing a heavier weight on.

Keep at it. If you're stuck at some certain weight while lifting, just drop a little weight and focus 1 or 2 extra reps. That should work so that the next time you can get to your target weight. Then focus on more progress.

Also, eat. And not just when you're hungry. Make sure you get enough calories to grow, it's not just the protein. It's pretty easy to forget to eat especially if you're generally busy..

So I've been told, but would it really help anything? I usually clean my plate, so...

I'll try that, thanks a lot.

when did we meet?

80lbs overheads isn't bad for someone who can do 80lbs on squats and deadlifts. You shouldn't worry about overheads now, worry about squats, benching, and deadlifts.

thats not a sufficient diet plan for gaining mass.

though you may get stuck at 80lbs overhead press for a while regardless of diet.

Good to see I'm not alone. Good luck on your goal, maybe I should just eat more myself.

If you're a skinny-ass bitch like me, you need to start with general strengthening. Work large muscle groups. Do a few chin-dips; I could only do 5 at first. Pull-ups are good too; I could only do 3 at first, lol.

Focus on strengthening large muscle groups until your body is ready for bigger stuff.

Very informative! Thanks so much.

I can already do about 30 of each, but I'll see if I can do more bodyweight stuff (or just try some new lifts) to see if I can build up my general strength.

OH NO YOU DON'T!

That's the exact opposite of what you want to do, the lift you hate the most is the one you need to work hardest at. OHP is a bitch of a lift, but 80lbs isn't bad if you only weigh 110. Gains on it will always be hard, and until your wrists strengthen it will probably hurt, it took me about 2 months on stronglifts until I could do OHP without getting sore wrists. The only thing you can really do is just grit your teeth and kick it's ass.

Treat it like a lifting exercise...
how many sets are you doing?

I meant that I'll still do them, just not worry about not making gains on them.
