Hello /fit/, 5'9, 184 pounds (gained 4 this year), 21 years of age

I have decided that I no longer want to be fat but I also don't want to be thin. I was down to about 170 last year and it absolutely sucked, I need my internal core to be strong, because I get into fights with local street toughs or some shit.

Anyway, I have been told that lifting weights increases the body's metabolic rate to allow faster weight loss. I was wondering if I can maintain close to my same weight by building muscle mass (I have virtually none at the moment except on my biceps and calves)

In that case, what is the cheapest bench/whatever equipment I can buy, or, failing that, an alternative to that. I need to build muscle mass, I assume, in all places. All I own at the moment is a jump rope (won't build muscle mass) and a 20 pound weight (builds minor muscle mass). Can't go to a gym, too socially conscious of the people around me.

Pic semi related, just some choad from google images.

Uh, look fatty, you don't need to worry about being thin. If you were weak at 170 it's because you're a lard-ass with no muscle, not because 170 is just too thin.

Also, here's a plan: how about not getting in fights with "local street toughs".

Yes, you can go to the gym. Here's a PRO-TIP for that, and life in general: nobody's paying attention to you; nobody gives a shit about anything except what they imagine other people are thinking about them. Haha. Isn't it funny? Why, yes it is!
Go get to work.

Not true, I judge people constantly in the gym who are obviously dumbshits.

Any one who intentionally performs a lift wrong so they can look impressive will incur the collective ridecule of experienced members.

But no one ever thinks poorly of beginners, showing commitment to change will earn you respect from gym rats, even if you weak and fat.

OP here. I went to sears and got an 80 pound starter bench for 80 bucks. I met a guy online who is pretty ripped and used to coach hockey and told me that light free weights in intense reps work the best for tearing the muscle. He told me to use the bar until I can work up to about 40 pounds free lifts on each arm. I don't actually want to be bulky I just want toned muscle in replace of the fat and to speed my metabolism up. I might buy a punching bag just for the hell of it. Anyway, any other advice?

You're 184 lbs. You're not even exceptional at being fat.

Alright bitch it's on.

As soon as I get ripped I am tracing your IP and kicking your ass. I hope you live in your mother's basement so I can fuck her on the way down there.

This illustration is really gay.

I mean I've seen gay porn in exactly the same style and would not be at all surprised if it was done by the same artist.

Buy a bar, buy some plates.

Deadlift, front squat, clean, jerk, snatch, row.

Get a bench and throw benchpress in there.

Get a rack (can also use to bench if you buy a cheap bench, just have 1 set of pins at "chest is crushed" point and the racky things at just below lockout, I only bought a rack and use as my benchpress by buying an adjustable bench, so I can do in\de-cline etc etc

So yeah, depending on money:
Bar + weights
Then a rack
Then a bench

Check out west side for skinny bastards, or rippetoe's starting strength.

I had initially shopped it to say "hard gay" but it didn't look right so I retained the original.

I just bought all this junk yesterday sans rack. I'll work on that next. I know I sweat the most when I bench which is why I bought that first.

Also wondering, if I maintain the same amount of calories I usually eat (Probably between 1500 and 2000, I just had a recent incline because I binged on a ton of unhealthy shit recently) and build muscle, will the weight come off if my metabolism is burning the fat faster? Or should I change my diet completely? I plan to start eating at least 3 egg whites a day because I've been told that's the best form of solulable protein. Other than that, chicken, shrimp and vegetables. Probably a decent amount of salt, no oil or butter, bread or dairy. This will be a significant diet change for me but I usually eat pretty healthy anyway so the calories probably won't shift much. I just gain weight from inactivity.

Doesn't really seem appropriate. I would have gone with for instance, penises.

Half the people that go to the gym are gay. Half the reason I don't want to go. My father's gay and he spends like 6 days a week at the gym. He hasn't touched a woman in 15 years.

Jesus, how many fa/tg/uys do we have in /fit/? I see Hammerfag in both boards, and a few /tg/ memes flying around in here.

If that was a /tg/ meme, I wasn't aware. I've seen it(and the ad) all over 4chan.

It varies by gym. I swear my parents' gym has only two gay members, most of the gymrats there are married dickhead yuppies.

I think as a rule of thumb, Gold's gym is typically occupied by gay men.
