Creatine has indeed gone down in price, but depending on what kind you get can change a few things.
If you get the cheap ass stuff from say, GM, then you will need what is called a loading period, where you shove a bunch of the shit down everyday for about a week, and then you just maintain a certain level after workout days.
If you get some more expensive stuff, such as creatine citrate, you don't usually need a loading period, and if you do, it is much shorter and involves much less of an amount.
The performance gains you get from it aren't godlike, but they are nice. They were enough for me to break through a couple peaks every now and then.
Some people suggest doing two month cycles, as the long term effects of constant creatine usage are still being studied, :P
