dear /fit/:

All my life I've been very skinny (ectomorph) and now that I'm 18 I'd like to gain some muscle. What types of exercises and food do you suggest?

BTW I'm currently 5' 7" and 117 lb.

19, 5'8" 120lbs. Pushups, situps, pullups or any kind of curl you can do. Just use your own bodyweight until you build up a good foundation, I tried benching too early and tore a muscle down my chest, I'm lucky I didn't get a stretch mark.
Try and do all those exercises too, I did pushups for a year before I started doing anything else and now I'm playing catch-up.

Or, you could start eating a massive diet, to counter balance the cock-slappingly fast metabolism. Then, you need to get a gym pass, so you can start doing beautifuil, heavy compound movements, to wash your body with testosterone.

Heavy Compound Movements + A nice calorie surplus = You'll start growing in no time.

I suggest Rippletoe's Starting Strength book, to help you with learning the proper techniques.

If all else fails, you can go cheap, and just read this.
