I know, isnt that way too fucking much time to be spending in the gym? Like I would gladly commit myself to doing that if I knew I would get those results, but in reality if I (or you average person on /fit/ for that matter) would spend 20 hours a week at the gym, we would just constantly kill our body every day without going anywhere.

There has to be some other factor, like some sort of god-like genetics or something. I looked at his plan and he does something like 12-20 reps per set, using the machines as well.
>> Anonymous
The guy is doing fucking 20 reps? Is he forreal?

hey, i havent read the story, nor will i, because i dont care.

even looking @ his picture, the 'possible juice' warning is going off.

saying he was 80lbs or whatever and did this in a year, then highly likely (unless the OP pic is of him @ 100lbs)

basic science and muscle physiology here guys. the human body can synthesize, at most, between 10-15 lbs of muscle tissue a year (20lbs for freaks or very large men).
this is
A. for beginners
B. average sized male (5'9) as frame size plays into total synth capacity
C. 100% OBSESSIVE dedication

any more than that is questionable
especially when you look at the definitional general purpose of AAS --> "enhanced synthesis of myofibrillar proteins"

(note: i am discuss straight protein hypertrophy, NOT the other mechanics that occur throughout the system and locally when this happens) meaning, sure, you can gain 30-40lbs of weight in a year, but only 15lb will be muscle (rest being glycogen, fluid retention, fat, etc).
that kid is way too lean to be having that.
>> Anonymous
That's definitely a body made by isolation and machines. Someone give that kid a barbell and show him how to use it.

Now I'm no expert on bodybuilding and other such faggotry, but I do know that with a properly designed strength training program the average male can obtain a 315 squat in 6 months at the longest, 3 months being more reasonable.

You guys are forgetting the fact that he was in a coma for three months. That caused him to lose a lot of muscle. When you lose muscle like that it's easy for your body to bounce back. So if he came out of the coma and right away completely dedicated himself I think it's possible.

I remember when I had mono I lost about 15 pounds, and gained it all back in just a few days.
>> Anonymous
>>419953
true but his primary source of weight training is through circuit training on machines. he didnt get ALL of that muscle through BJJ/Muy thai training and supplemental training.

and yes, he is a black belt in bjj.

>> Anonymous
So is it worth it to do all the shit that he did while going to the gym for 4 hours 5 days a week?
>> OriginalContentGuy@gmail.com
>>420135
No. It's simply just too much for your body to cope with. You'll burn out.

Plus, his routine is far less then optimal for many reasons, needs less reps (20 reps = endurance, less will give you more strength), less exercises (need about two per major muscle group, not 20), more weight (less reps means more weight can be used) and freeweight exercises (freeweights can use many more muscles then machines, as well as stabilising muscles) . Also, more rest between muscle groups, you don't work the same group two days in a row, and only once a week is better.

ITT

/fit/ tries to comprehend how a 15yr old has progressed more than the entire collective combined.
>> Anonymous
>>419906

Super serious. If it take you longer than 6 months to get a 1rm squat of 315 then you are either below average in terms of initial strength and size, but more likely just doing it wrong.

Strength training is easy: Stress, recover, supercompensate. Or: Squat, eat and sleep, add 5-10 lbs.
>> Anonymous
>>420254

>> Anonymous
>>420264

Yes, it's pretty much for everybody. You fall under "doing it wrong" category, but just barely. Eat more, get bigger. Bigger muscles have better leverage against joints, caloric surplus spurs progress. A gallon of milk a day is a good place to start.

BCAAs are a supplement best reserved for 'speciality' situations in more advanced lifters
they are very expensive and 'incomplete' form of amino acids (altho still the best 3 you can take, primarily for the leucine (see L. Norton's work out of UIUC for journals on this topic)
optimal usage
-between meals during dieting/pre competition
-during stages of heavy overreaching (training 2x a day, squatting 5x a week+, etc)

recommendations are all over the board on this topic. I'm going to go w/poliquin's, that if you arent having 40g BCAA, you are pissing in the wind (training recommendation)

for diet, 15g, spaced between meals 6x per day. (see Dave Tate..)

NOW for the caveats to appease the trolls, opinionated fucks, and retarded cats.
yes, this is OMFG expensive and 'alot', which means this ISNT for you. these recommendations are only for advanced/competitive lifters during special times of stress. if you have to ask, you are not in that category, in fact, no one here is.

>> Anonymous
>>421369
So the stuff I probably needlessly spent on has the following in it per serving;
L-Leucine 6510mg
L-Isoleucine 1197mg
L-Valine 1197mg
L-Histidine 798mg
L-Lysine 1190mg
L-Methionine 399mg
L-Phenylalanine 1197mg
L-Threonine 1197mg
Taurine 1498mg
Glutamine 1498mg

I just heard these pre-workout boost your gains, but are these amounts even functional, and since I'm just doing stronglifts 3x a week is it doing anything apart from having cost me money?
>> Anonymous
its just funny you are so jealous/amazed at his body. I thought you were all into "functional" muscle and squats. Or was that just the bullshit you kept telling yourself to rationalize that gut. Any of you if you actually tried HARD for a year or so would be able to get that body or similar.

Its not like any of us fight for our lives or something and need functional muscle all the time, i need it when im playing sports or moving furniture, otherwise i'm moving a pen or pressin keys.

There is nothing wrong with bodybuilding for aesthetics, though i agree that when you do it purely for aesthetics it can become unhealthy.
>> Anonymous
>>421408
i already commented on the 'functional' threshold as observed by the best S&C coach in the world.

what probably would work for you would be to bracket your training session with 2 scoops per serving.

to see if it works. do this for a week, then dont do it for a week. compare subjective+objective indicators to reevaluate supplement 'success'

when i did the 40g protocol, i LITERALLY could not get any DOMS no matter what i did. a veratible (i say this term loosely) steroid like recover ability. The BCAAs only affected localized muscle performance/fatigue (you can't get sore, no matter what) . it did NOT have an effect on systemic CNS fatigue (didnt matter if you cant get sore, because you are weak as shit from exhausted CNS...).
