Dangerous as fuck if you don't know what you're doing and are not in incredible shape to begin with. It's definitely not something you do to GET IN shape, you do it once you're ALREADY in shape...for fun.

It's also banned in more places than skateboarding. Cop sees you jumping some fucking roof top or some shit and you're done...better hope Sergeant "Fatty" Joe is on the beat so you can outrun him. Oh, but you can't outrun a police radio.

Apologies for posting something that has been posted before. Same image is curious, but not unlikely since I just nabbed it from Google.

I'm a low to mid level practitioner currently doing parkour and looking into maybe trying out a bit of freerunning (flips and shit are still slightly scary to me).

If you want to get into Parkour, my advice to get in shape like someone else already mentioned in this thread. Let's face it, we all hanging around 4chan; it's unlikely that many of us are have the best power to weight ratio.

I for one know that I was pathetically weak even for my weight when I first started about a year ago. Train your flexibility as well, because that will save your ass when you bail and believe me, you will many times especially when you're learning a new vault.

You don't need to get too beefed up, in fact, too might weight might hinder you in the long run. However try to get as much explosive strength as possible. Consult a trainer at a local gym for the best exercises to accomplish this.

Lastly, look up a crew to practice with in your area. Most major metropolis would have a group of guys willing to train together with you as long as you stay committed. Many of these groups will have a website or forum where they discuss techniques, organizes jams or search for training partners in their own neighbourhoods.

Just google it or whatever. http://urbanfreeflow.yuku.com/ is a good place to start since that's where I found the four guys I train with at least once or twice a week.

You don't really need to sign up for an account there. Just browse around and look for group meetings in your applicable area. As far as I know (around my parts anyways) drop-ins are always welcomed. It's overall a very friendly community from my own experiences.

As far as actual training goes, the most important thing I have to say is to avoid doing something you aren’t comfortable with especially when you first start out. As your skill level improves, so would your psychological limit. People might encourage you to try something beyond your limit and that’s a good thing; no one is going to make fun of you for backing out if you really that uncomfortable with it and if they do, they’re probably not the best guys to train with.

The previous blurb was just my personal opinion so remember to take it with a grain of salt. It mostly came from the fact that a year ago I encountered a precision jump that some nagging part at the back of my head told me I would not be able to complete. I winged it anyways despite my instincts, thinking “what could possibly go wrong?” I ended up in the hospital later that day with two broken ribs.

You would notice yourself getting into shape really fast if you do parkour about three times a week for even a few hours. On the freerunning front, since I’m personally a beginner as well, there’s only one thing I could suggest to you. Practice your front and backflips at the gymnastic place until you have them perfect before trying it outside.

Aside from that, have fun and good luck on your training.
