Long post here.
First, the commercial wasn't saying, "it's ok to be obese, go ahead and down that gallon of Ben and Jerry's, fatty." It was making the point that there is a hell of a lot of focus on being hot for women. It's not saying "OMG we womynz haf it sooooo tough!11" It merely points out the seduction the beauty industry has over women, that you need to be beautiful to accomplish anything as a female. Plenty of brilliant, successful women have changed the world for the better, but if these women are unattractive we tend to discount their merit--look at Eleanor Roosevelt. Yeah, we have to study her (maybe) for a whole hot second in school but once you see her horse face her accomplishments seem to fade out while everyone laughs and makes crude sexual innuendo about her. Abraham Lincoln was fucking hideous, and what about Taft? Could you imagine a woman of the same weight accomplishing any prestigious political office? Would you vote for her? Taft said that "everyone loves a fat man" but it seems that most of 4chan and many around the world agree--nobody loves a fat woman. Fat men can be merry and funny. Fat women are thought of as pathetic, worthless masses with no self control. I understand that this is 4chan and you can't expect everyone to see clearly or evenly, but listen here, males of /fit/--the video in the OP was not accusing you of having an easy time with body issues. Consider this, as well: think of all of the cosmetic surgery available for women. Botox, tummy-tucks, boob jobs, surgeries to remove all of your wrinkles and deformities. Men could get these surgeries too, but is there real pressure for them to? It's not enough that women have to be thin, have to have perfect skin and glossy, shiny hair, but we have to pay thousands of dollars to fix all of our anatomical flaws as well? Please, for one second, abandon your prejudice and consider the idea that it is hard to placate the modern standard of beauty.
