My Body = Skinny-Fat Anonymous
Hi, /fit/.

I'm 22, 5'3, and weigh about 104 pounds. I used to weigh 130, but by changing my diet I lost over twenty pounds in less than a year and have kept it off for over a year now. My frame and arms are thin as fuck, but I think I have a bit of a belly and my thighs are kind of thick. Not pictured is my bottom, which is also not firm.

Am I paranoid or am I skinny-fat? Can /fit/ recommend some exercises that could help me to tone or shape these problem areas?

Also, is my body type uneasy on the eyes, or is it an attractive shape? I'm afraid that if I become rail thin everywhere I'll look too much like Skeletor to be even remotely attractive (and remotely is about all I think I've got going for me right now). My breasts are very small as it is and weren't much bigger 20 pounds ago, so I don't want to lose anything there.

Pretty much no exercising beyond my job (constant moving and lifting but very low impact) and walking 3-4 consecutive miles once or twice a week. I hope that exercising may firm up the lose/fat parts of my body and have come to /fit/ for advice like a retard looking for advice on how to chew steak properly.

I wouldn't go as far as to say you're unattractive, however you could definitely improve your look and thus self-esteem. Losing your chest might happen, but if you are overall more attractive and confident, it shouldn't be a problem :)


As far as nutrition, since you lost that weight ill assume you know what you're doing. With exercises, if you don't have a gym avail, you could do body weight stuff (push/pullups, bridges, squats various ways, ab wheel!) and cardio wouldn't hurt. Good luck!

You need to start exercising more, start jogging or walking more often per week. I'd say every other day but try for at least 3 times a week. You don't need to go really far every time, but elevate your heart rate for at minimum 30 minutes. Go for distance when you can, but this is bare minimum standards

Also start doing some push ups and sit ups.

I appreciate all of this. Basic things I can do in my living room should be no problem to pull off, just have to put effort into it and DO it as I know I should have been doing. Will work on my posture as well, (ack, lordosis; I have a low grade case of scoliosis, so it will take effort). Thanks for the advice and the constructive comments.

OK, skinny-fat, you are unhealthy. You only look skinny because there is no muscle underneath your fat. That's very bad.

My advice? Hit the fucking gym. Really... Get a trainer and start up 5x5 Starting strength. If you are interested in the gym ask, I'll give more advice.

If not,

At least do some bodyweight exercises. Push-ups etc. But you will not see much change. But it is still better than nothing.

Either way I'd say do some good mourning with no weights.

My take: i would say that what you are lacking is muscle tone. Your forearms, shoulders, back are too skinny. Not being fat is not enough, you need muscle tone, too.

work on push ups and bench dips. good easy workouts you can do at home. go for a nice run 3-4 times a week, like 30 minutes at a moderate pace. keep eating right. do some crunches, leg lifts, scissor kicks, etc... you'll be golden in a few months if you keep at it.
