Hey, /fit/.

I started doing situps recently in hopes to lose my flabby stomach. 100 a night, every night. The results have actually been mildly surprising, considering I have only minimally changed my actual diet. My stomach got smaller and more compact. However, it feels to me that the muscles are just UNDER the fat, and won't go away.

I feel that I am the right track, and assume that the muscle will simply burn away the fat in due time, but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong and this was a common occurrence. I feel the muscles coming in, but I don't feel the fat going anywhere! I wondering if it'll make me look even MORE bloated for the next few weeks.

Thanks in advance.

It's not fat. It's a disease. You're going to die.

big muscles help you burn fat, yes, i dont see why you would get bloated.

OP needs more aerobic exercise for burning fat. try jogging, jumping jacks, biking, etc.
working out just builds muscle.

Spot reducing fat is not possible.

Sit ups don't burn fat, they build muscle.

All exertion burns fat, but if OP wants to remove the layer of fat on his stomach he needs to sort his diet and do some proper cardio.

Yes thats right, but when you excessive train your abs or some other region you will burn more fat at these spots than just doing cardio.

Situps isnt enough of an ab exercise, try weighted situps or google for much better ab exercises.

You can not burn fat on your stomach by doing sit ups. Go jog or something.

Nope. That would still be spot reduction.

follow up your situps with some jogging, some nights skip working your abs and just do a cardio session. like everyone else has said, doing situps will build your abs but it wont get rid of the layer of fat covering them. everyone naturally has abs, its just a case if we have low enough body fat to see them.
