how bad is stress/anxiety for gains and such and also just for general health concerns

i have chronic pain but it is to the point where it's almost becoming manageable so I can fuckin take life by the horns and start doing anything and everything again but at the same time when I'm in increased pain my anxiety/stress levels go through the roof and there's nothing I can do about it since it's pain induced

so yea is there anything I can do to help that other than a)smoke weed b) "just try to relax"

and the other question, about maximizing my gains in the gym, how much it'll affect that
