Way I got to 20 pullups was to just go out 3 times a day and do 20 pullups no matter how long it took me. I also began doing weighted pullups at the gym when I got up to 15, and the weighted seemed to do the trick.
You can alternate pulling and pushing as well. Like this.
Morning: 20 pullups/40 pushups
Noon: 20/40
Night: 20/40
Also, when doing pullups an underhand grip may seem easier now, but if you work the overhand grip your pullups will build faster. An overhand grip uses your back muscles, which grows much faster than your bicep muscles, which is the dominant muscle in underhand pullups.
Do that during the week and take the weekends off.
