so i'm a fatass, 6' 2'' and 320 lbs. i want to lose weight, probably 100lbs (does that sound good?). anyway, besides dieting, what is the best exercise to just drop weight, as opposed to just focusing on building muscles. I was thinking swimming. i'm sure i can find an indoor pool around here, like at the local high school or the YMCA. what does /fit/ think?

I'd recommend swimming and long walks (> 1 h).

I think running would be bad for your legs, but you could start doing that once you get lighter.

not OP and a math dropout here, does that mean greater or lesser than when not comparing it to a second number?

Greater than 1 hour.

It is being compared to a second number. ((long walks) > (1 hour))

Also, a good mnemonic is to think of > as a crocodile mouth. The crocodile want to eat as much as possible, thus he'll always be facing the greatest number.

Saging because this reply has nothing to do with OPs question.

what are good activities to do to just lose weight? swimming, running and bicycling i suppose?
>> Spoony.Commie
Do weightlifting.
Yeah I know you just want to drop weight, but lifting will ensure that you don't lose whatever little you have as you drop down, which will keep your metabolism higher, and your muscles won't grow much if you're eating at a caloric deficit.

Also, your diet is much more important than exercise for weight loss. Make sure you're eating meat/greens with most meals.

Wow its so stupid reccomend him do weightlifting, HE IS A FATASS, weights are for people with BF of around 25% - no matter what you stupid kids who don't know shit about nutrition and medicine besides what you read on the internet .

Dude just do cardio, i mean , running, basket, even tae-bo or any tiresome sport, i dont recommend swimming that much, and you WILL lose muscle because its natural to lose some when you lose lots of fat, so dont do (serious) weightlifting yet or else ull get hungrier / fatter.

Also the muscle youll' be losing it's the one that makes your body able to make a fatshit like you move, so it's no like the end of the world if you lose it,because you can gain some muscle later afteryou lose lots of fat.

Btw NO Hiit or squats, like this retards usually tell, both are advanced exercices for people that is at least a bit athletic, both are dangerous if done alone unless experienced.

Do cardio. Running (or jogging or walking, work your way up), swimming, anything that gets your heart rate up and gets you sweaty will do the trick.

Vegitto here.

100 lbs seems like a reasonable goal (it's going to take time to get to it, though. The point is to not get discouraged and stick with it).

Weight lifting will increase your muscle mass, which will help you burn moar calories. Swimming is an excellent form of cardio.

Make sure to switch it up so your body doesn't fall into a routine. It'll keep you motivated and you body won't get used to the exercise.

Finally, once you're down to around 220, make sure to continue to exercise and eat right; this is where most people fail. Gain/Loss is the easy part...maintaining it is the challenge.

the more muscle you use during exercise, the more calories you burn. Puttin on muscle will only help in your situation. the more muscle you have, the more energy it requires to keep them going, and the calories stored in your body fat will be used.
