What's the deal with using a sauna along with working out? I just got a membership at the Y, and I have some immature motivation to use the sauna just because it's there. Do you use it before or after you work out, and will it hurt/help you?
>> Anonymous
I've been wondering this to. People go in there all the time after working out. But are there benefits or is just a feel good thing?

It won't harm you as long as you are hydrated.

Health Benefits of the Sauna:

- It's just plain relaxing, and that can be good for you if you're stressed.

- Supposedly you sweat out a lot of toxins, so it a good way to cleanse your body.

Going sauna will tear on your muscle mass.
After workout the muscles are very sensitive, the chlorides and amino acids will be burned through hotness

So is this good or bad?

It's incorrect, for a start. Dude, you can't sweat muscle off, what the fuck are you scared of. It's a hot room with lots of steam, with lots of naked guys checking eachother's dicks out. Is that what you're afraid of, and you're only trying to find a legitimate excuse to tell yourself why you don't go in there? Immature faggot.

Bullshit. It won't harm you. Hell, the Finnish people have used it for ages, so it can't be that bad.
>> OP
The only reason I was hesitant about this was because for our long trips for Cross Country meets in high school our coach always forbid us from going in the sauna. I never really understood why, I guess I just kind of learned to avoid the sauna lol.

It gets rid of soreness, I feel really clean after a sauna session and it's relaxing. All good enough reasons for me.

cleanness and not to mention the fact that while your sitting there the suana being so hot actually burns extra calories

b/c you were in high school.
the last thing they wanted was a bunch of high school athletes away from home getting at dehydrated/screwing around in the sauna.
go for it!

Right because if it's hot outside and you leave the gym, your muscles just fry up, fucking faggot.

Here is how you do it, fags.

1. Work out as normal.
2. Change, rinse off in the shower with warm/cool water (not hot). Don't bother with soap.
3. Go to the sauna. Sit and sweat for 10 minutes or until you start to get foggy-eyed. If you start to cough or get lightheaded then time's up.
4. Go back to the shower, rinse in COOL water.
5. Go back to the sauna. Sit for another 5 or 10 minutes.
6. You're done, go shower and soap off.

The idea is to sweat. You won't hurt your muscles, your skin will feel MUCH cleaner, you'll get a lot less acne if you're prone to that kind of thing, and you won't STINK as bad when you do sweat.

Don't do it if you're not hydrated.

Drilling a hole in frozen ice and jumping in is a good way to do this. Cold shower will do as a weak substitute.

This produces a natural high (and yes, some people do get addicted to it). The threshold of getting started is high but once you get to it it feels FANTASTIC. The temperature shock does wonders to your blood circulation, you can tell which 85-year-olds used to do this as a favorite past time just by touching their hands. After a dozen rounds of 90C (~200F) sauna and cold water you will feel deeply relaxed.

Also the times don't matter at all, just do what feels good.

You do it after. It will certainly not hurt. You don't have to be hardcore with the temperatures like in the above description but you're missing out (both from the experience and the best effects) if you aren't.

>>474912
Has the right idea. Repeat steps 4 and 5 as many times as you like. The point is indeed to sweat so don't forget to drink every now and then. The air in the sauna should never be dry but at or near 100% humidity. Acceptable sauna temperatures according to me range from 80C (176F, not sufficient if you really did dip yourself in ice cold water) to 95C (203F, go higher and absolute humidity will feel uncomfortable) but my dogs get out once it goes over 85C or so.

Is it hot in here or is it just me?
Feels like a suana in here

My gym has a "dry" sauna (all saunas are wet, really) and a steam room where you can't see more than a foot in front of your face. I go for the steam room.
