I just bought a bike a few days ago. My school is only about 3 or 4 miles away so i thought driving there everyday was useless. I was wondering how much I should bike everyday for optimal weight loss. I'm a short fat female.
Pic related - my bike.

That's a retarded question, How much you should bike everyday for optimal weightloss? Well, that would be 24hours a day. And you shouldn't bike for weightloss, go running. But good call on the driving your bike to school, but when your not having to go from A to B, and just doing it as cardio, run.

Well I would kinda disagree... Yes, running is a better workout for cardio and working more muscles in general but some people, like myself, can't run for distance for various reasons. I get nasty arch cramps that stop me dead in my tracks for instance.

If you REALLY wan't to do some serious fuckin' cardio on the bicycle you should work your way into a harder HIIT routine on the bicycle. At first, ten or so miles of a hard HIIT regimen on the bicycle will probably be good. Once your legs get used to the abuse you can start doing real 20-30 mile rides of HIIT. I try to train with the local cat 3/4 racers whenever I can and they put down at least 30 miles of HIIT in a short ride.

Basically, it's simple... keep in your max heart rate as much as possible until you feel like the world is ending.

Biking is a great way to lose weight. Go for leisure rides between/after classes.

Biking is an addiction - and withdrawl can be painful :)
I used to commute 12 miles a day (home-work-home), and far moar when I felt in the mood !!!

Then I went to work in a city - biking is difficult due to bike-killing traffic, and public transport is abundant....

I did not change my eating habits from my small town job, and over 7 years, I have put on 66 lbs...

I've lost 10 over the last year due to eating better, but I have a long way to go, and an even longer one from when I would take on 50cc scooters - and win...
