Cheap Diet Anonymous
Sup /fit/. I'm a destitute young man living off of ramen, mac and cheese and frozen pizza. I'm 5' 7" and about 185 pounds. Not grossly obese, but I've got a belly I'm looking to get rid of.

However, since I'm poor, I can't afford a lot of organic fruits and veggies and stuff. What does /fit/ recommend in a situation like this? Should I just start paying more for less food if it means eating fruits/veggies?

I only drink water and occasionally Arizona iced tea. I did away with soda a long time ago.

tl;dr: Help a poorfag lose his gut plz.

tofu is relatively cheap as well, compared to the prices of most meats anyway

Cooking your own food is cheaper and healthier than eating boxed food.

Don't get organic, it's a scam and a waste of money, just get regular fruits and vegetables.

Pound for pound, grains, fruits, vegetables, and storebought meat are cheaper than any fast food you can get. Find a cheap grain like barley, corn, wheat, rice, oatmeal (one of the easier options), etc that you can tolerate well enough, and try to have some with every meal, or mix it with other stuff, it'll help fill you up cheaply without making you gag.

Peanut butter sandwiches are a very cheap poor man's food. It's very filling, portable, quick, cheap, and tastes decent (just make sure you have water to wash it down lol). Get some multivitamins, because it's hard to eat in a balanced way when you're eating cheap.

It is bizarre, but it really is hard to beat the dollar menu when it comes to getting the most for your money (believe me, I've done the math). But once you start crunching the numbers, you'll find some tricks to eat decently for next to nothing, at least on par with dollar menu food/money ratio that's much better for you.

AZ tea has almost as much sugar as soda, by the way. Just make your own tea.

I just realized I seemingly contradicted myself; to clarify:
>Pound for pound, grains, fruits, vegetables, and storebought meat are cheaper than any fast food you can get
>but it really is hard to beat the dollar menu when it comes to getting the most for your money
In the first part I was implying the non-bargain menu type items; the "meals" that costs around 5-8 dollars, the dollar/99c/bargain menus are actually pretty impressive for portion vs price (at least at carl's jr/hardees), I have a difficult time replicating the same items for the same price with groceries.

You honestly cant tell me peanut butter sandwiches are made for diets. Read the nutrition, its got fuck all good for a diet in it.

OP -

You pay more for the shit you eat now than you would buying regular fruit & veg. Stick to lean meats, fruit & veg and cut out sugar, high fat, high carbs foods.

Exercise more on Cardio for at least 30 minutes a day. You start burning fat as an energy source approx. 20 mins into a moderate-intense cardio session, so 40 mins a day moderate-intense cardio is great.

Find your BMR, -1000 and thats your new calorie limit. You fill this up with high protein foods and plenty vegetables.

Only 185, you dont have much to lose, so you will not have to do this for long.

Nah, I was going more from a survival/lesser of two evils standpoint, it's dirt cheap and it's much better for you than a burger. Plus you need *some* fat in your diet anyway, while it has 3g of saturated fat (which isn't bad), it has 13g good fats (ratio in link below). It's also very filling compared to the amount of calories it has in it. Where 400 Calories from most foods might get me by for about 5 hours, with pb, I can get by about the same amount of time on around 300 Calories. I used it both for bulking (cheap protein, delicious in shakes) and cutting (keeps me filled up longer, good with ketosis).

Definitely not a complete food source, nor an ideal staple, which is why I suggested a multivitamin.

Peanut butter kicks ass for diets, moron
In a study conducted on wieght gain, people eating peanuts were much less likely to gain weight, and gained 424g less, when they did gain wheight. Now, I'm going to assume you are a somplete retard, and esxplain that anything that helps people avoid gaining weight (when they are trying not too gain weight) will also help you lose weight.

Its also a good source of protein (good for losing wieght) a good source of b vitamins, and minerals, vitamin e, and has a stronger phytonutrient antioxidant profile then the vast majority of fruit, all of which means it is a healthy and balanced staple food that is cheep and can be easily used to lose wieght. All of which means its essentially perfect for this sort of situation.

If you do eat a lot of peanut butter, you need to avoid jely, or other sweet peanut butter additives, they are evil evil empty calories with no nutrients whatsoever.

Rice, Pasta + Tuna/Mackerel + Veg

Tins of chopped tomatoes are cheap ad easy to put with any meal (provided presentation doesn't matter). Most of my meals at the moment are just sloppy mixes.

Be careful with the carbs though if you are trying to loose weight, if you can have enough veg that you don't need the pasta/rice

organic isn't bullshit lol. too poor to afford healthier food lol

The peanut butter diet is not a viable solution for someone looking to lose weight. The "studies" i read from medical research were 25lb lost a YEAR, including 45 mins exercise.

You can get all other nutrition outside peanut butter, why make him take longer than he has to when there are much faster options considering his build. These "studies", have the same claims as the aspartme in diet coke. They claim to have evidence, yet its not fully researched. Im not denying it doesnt work full stop, im just saying there are faster and more effective methods to losing what little weight he needs to.

We survived long enough without this peanut butter diet bullshit, the best method has always been strong willpower.

It's bullshit for the price, and it's bullshit because it's pointless. All you're doing is paying 4x what it's worth because it supposedly adheres to some arbitrary rules (though it's poorly regulated, so enjoy your expensive regular food) that may or may not mean a damned thing in terms of quality or safety.

just eat normal veggies fruit grains fresh meat etc

i lived away from home and it was CHEAPER to eat healthy and in bulk, so no damn excuses.

xtra lean ground beef + whole wheat pasta + no name sauce = 20 meals for 20 bucks
