i'm on weight watchers.

i have 22 points daily. if bread is 1 1/2 points per piece, can i have 22 points worth of it and still lose weight? or do i have to incorporate protein etc for it to be effective?

Will you be in a calorie deficit? If so, then yes, you will lose weight. Welcome to basic human anatomy.

Your body doesn't care what kind of calories it gets...if it isn't getting enough overall, it will burn stored fat and eventually muscle as energy. Eat 1,000 calories of McDonald's per day and you'll lose weight, but your heart and circulatory system won't like you very much.

You can't gain muscle when you're undereating anyways, so it doesn't matter.

I think the real problem with eating all your points as bread isn't OMG CARBZ, because as 191742 said, you'll lose weight no matter what sort of calories you take in. But I can guarantee that eating an unbalanced diet, especially when you're undereating, will make you miserable as hell. You'll probably not have any energy to work out and will be tempted to binge if you eat all your points as bread.

tl;dr: don't do it.

Yes, it just won't be nearly as efficient as if you were eating a good amount of protein. Carbs go into muscle repair, too, and you honestly need both carbs and protein for effective muscle gain.

Gaining is muscle is about 70% working out and 30% diet, but you'll have a lot of plateaus and lack of energy if you aren't eating properly while trying to build new muscle. Here's a little tip: Anytime you "feel the burn", you've created small tears in your muscle tissue which will be repaired over the next day or so and they will be stronger than they were before, just like how when people want long hair, they get it cut fairly often because it grows back faster the more it gets cut. However, without proper proteins and carbs, these little tears won't be repaired to their fullest extent and thus it will take longer to gain muscle.

that's just not true. the cure to baldness is not shaving you head.
