Dr. Baron von Evilsatan
Doesn't matter what you do as long as you're pushing your limit. Even the guys so damn bulky they can't actually turn their heads at the neck started off somehwere, and they all recognise and acknowledge this. As long as you can actually follow the right procedure, you'll be fine. Get one of the gym instructors to tell you how to use anything you don't know to avoid this.
Nobody could really care how little you can lift, pull, or push. Sure, everyone's impressed when someone comes along and lifts a huge weight that bends the bar it's on, but that doesn't mean they'll scorn you if you can only lift the bar itself.
You will, however, be hated if you don't follow the gym's etiquette. Read the rules, and spend a few minutes watching the other people to get an idea of what is and isn't acceptable behaviour. Everyone there will be fine with the guy who can barely leg press twenty kilos, but the beefcake who doesn't use a towel and takes a machine someone else is using will be universally loathed in seconds.
