I need help /fit/, I have a personality disorder, and probably a few other problems that I should address, which means I should probably get help with it since it's gotten to the point where I pretty much avoid anyone and my only contact with people comes from people who come to talk to me. That itself seems to be be a problem since I can come off as an asshole or be pretty boring to talk to(both probably a result of a lack of contact with other pople). I pretty much told myself that I'd deal with it instead of getting help for it, so it's gotten worse.
Well tonight a problem arose. My friend told me that I should go to therapy and I refused to, telling her that I can deal with it. She knows how I feel about her and she told me that if I don't go to therapy she's going to stop eating. She's the only person I've ever felt I actually loved and I do not want her to even attempt to do that. Even though I don't want to go to therapy, I'll do it to make sure she doesn't.

This is where I need your help. I have no clue what to do here. Where would I go about searching for a therapist? What is the general price range? Would regular health insurance cover some of the fees or is there a special insurance for it?

All of these are related to each other. The real question is what kind of coverage do you already have? Call them. tell them you want/need psych help. chances are they have a list of people who take their coverage.

And what the hell man, stop being such a god damn failure. throw your modem in a lake and hang out with some friends once in a while jesus christ. i mean it too. you don't really need the 'net as much as you think.

It's not the fact that I'm online all of the time. The problem was there before I started going on excessively. The difficulty I have actually initiating a conversation with some one is part of the problem. I just spend a lot of time online now because I find it easier to have a conversation, although it lacks the face-to-face aspects of one with actual people, with some one. It is, at least, some form of communication with other people: something I was lacking before I started going online for several hours per day.

Alos, for health insurance I just have some student health plan from Aetna because my school requires all students to carry some form of health insurance. I believe I'm also on my step-father's MassHealth plan because I'm still listed as a dependant so he put me on the plan.

I'm looking into therapies right now. I have a doctor's appointment next week, do you think he'd be able to suggest one? also, I can't afford basement ;-;

all I can offer is that I was in a similar situation until recently - really antisocial, not xenophobic but I didn't want to make eye contact with most people, got really nervous when i did have to partake in a situation - typical social anxiety. I also had testing anxiety as well - caused by what i think was a high pressure childhood - i have batshit insane parents - but anyway the point is that I moped around for a few months absolutely depressed as could be that I was so fucked up and finally just last month snapped out of it - I got off my lazy ass, turned off the damn comp, and started going to the gym - also busied myself with other hobbies, such as reading, drawing, taking on more hours at work, learning to cook new stuff, playing the piano again - I think that if you're just in some type of emotional funk you need to get off your ass and at least busy yourself with more things to do.

personally my social life is very slowly picking up - i've already started some conversations. the best way to go about that is ask simple questions to someone nearby, like if you can borrow notes. if you're in college knock on your neighbor's doors and introduce yourself, etc. I'm not saying talk to every person you meet but start to try and contemplate "openings" for conversation. maybe you see the person next to you playing some game on their laptop that you like - tell them something simple and stupid like "oh i love that game, how long have you been playing." also joining some type of club or team is a great means of getting to know people.

and this was fucking insanely long for a post, but finally i'd like to add that you need to do all of this in moderation if you want to make changes - don't decide one day that you're going to change completely. slowly incorporate a new daily regimen - maybe decide to work out for 15 minutes after dinner each day- something really easy and not time consuming, gradually increase. also if you try too hard and force yourself into an awkward social situation before you're really ready you'll be all the worse off for trying to take too big of a step. the best advice i can give is to take your time because you can improve - anyone can - but you have to be realistic about it and you do have to keep it up. so good luck and I hope things work out.

also ps: if you find that you're really, really seriously not able to handle digging yourself out of this "hole" so to speak - you try to do what i suggested or something similar and you simply can't handle it, I would go to therapy and see what's offered, simply because some problems arent so easily fixable
