Too fat for the gym? Anonymous
So I recently decided that it was about time to do something about my weight, so I changed my diet, and so far so good. But no matter who you ask about weightloss they'll always recommend that you get some form of exercise. So I've been thinking about going to the gym, but I'm worried that the fit people there will laugh at me. So I ask you /fit/, what do you think about fatasses that goes to the gym? Will I get laughed at?

Just go, brah. Buffdudes are a lot nicer than they appear, and will be proud of you for going out to get yourself in better shape.

I have to agree with>>287467
After recovering from a long illness I was un-fit & not obese but not skinny either. Thought I was going to get laughed out of the gyms but 9/10 people were very supportive simply because I made the choice & effort to go

No one actually talks at the gym. Every few minutes two girls that recognize each other as they're getting on the elliptical and start chatting, but other than that, there's very little talking going on.

Also, no one cares that you're a fat guy at a gym.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

If you are fat and you are in the gym, I do not hate you, because you are actually doing something about your fatness. In fact I kind of respect you.

All the exercises you can possibly imagine. Like>>287467said, buff guys are really supportive most of the time. I'm not huge myself but i consider myself pretty fit and I am always happy to give friends tips.

When I see a fat person at the gym it makes me smile its one more person that actually wants to do somthing about their weight.

If they came up to me with any questions I would surely help them

Nobody cares how other people look in the gym.
Regular lifters tend to be very humble and nice to be around from my experience.

only people at the gym who dont get my respect are douchebags who:

a) hog cardio machines when there is a clear time limit, and then give you stink-eye when you stand there behind them, or who try to act all cute when they realize they've been busted

b) people who don't even break a sweat, or who don't put in any effort

fat people who bust their asses, get soaked in sweat and come back for more (ie: what i've done for the last five months) = awesome

Most of the time there is little to no talking in the gym, however there is the occasional new members who does more talking than training, for example I've seen these 2 young girls come at around 6 am, they spent some time on the treadmill and then they came over to the free weights area (where I was doing overhead presses!) and decided to do crunches however there were more talking than crunching, a lot more.. Jesus christ they blabbered on about ignorant BS, about the things I overheard I particularly remember one of the girls weight.. 38kg..

O well, I'll watch them flail about and if they are fucking up completely I'll offer to help them out

That was something I was also worried about when I was a teen.

Nothing can be further from the true.
Gyms are very safe for social phobics and fatasses with low selfsteem. The truth is that most of the more dedicated people started like you and they still keep some of their insecurities, they could laugh at you privately, but only if you do something really stupid.
Just go, in my gym, a fatty who is probably almost 200 kgs and weak as shit is the most popular guy around the ladies, and all the guys respect him because he is very constant.

Nobody at the gym cares about you or what you look like . . . unless you're hot and they care about secksing you.

It's not highschool. Just people lifting weights.

Is this the guy that runs your gym?

Ladies think bodybuilders are narcissistic assholes who would explode into a fury of rage an testosterone upon initiating any form of contact.

We won't bite. I promise :) .

I spent $165 dollars once for one visit to feel stares and judgment. ;_;

Now I go walking/jogging outside and it's free, and the people on the road are too busy to care (I run on a path set a little back in a park... pretty desolate). Plus, in the summer, when I go back and forth, I turn off the air in the car and leave the windows up, so it's like I have my very own sauna. All it costs is 5 minutes worth of gas there and back.

Just to clarify, it's a friendship way.
Muscle heads get real attention because they are usually more insistent with the girls.

Stares? Bullshit, everyone stares at everyone at the gym. You need to get over it.
Some people stare because they admire your body.
Some people stare because you are doing something really stupid.
Some people stare because it is a place full of people and don't want to look to the floor.

They were not making fun of you, have some balls and return to the gym. A cheaper one

As a skinny guy with a belly I feel the same way. But after going regularly to the gym NO ONE GIVES A FUCK. Just be respectable, most people are cool if you ask for help. I'm proud of you. Way to make the effort to be healthy.

I get disgusted whenever I see an obese person at the gym. I think they should just roll over and die, or stay at home and eat more. There's no coming back from being that goddamn fat. And yes, I do laugh to myself at them.

Reasonably fat (think: beer gut) people make up 80% of any gym, they blend in pretty well. I hardly think of that crowd. Those are the people I will support, since their intelligence stopped them from going over the 30% body fat mark.

So if you're morbidly obese, please just stay the fuck at home and learn to diet. Chances are the gym wont do anything better for you since you'll get the same result from walking around your block a few times.

basically go to the gym and rotate between these basic workouts; do the machines with the pictures that work these muscles. You wont look like too much of a newfag reading the machine instructions as you would breaking bones and pulling muscles if you hadn't. The only things that have instructions unfortunately are the machines- not free weights, so you're gonna have to sign up for a trendier gym chain like LA fitness or 24 hour.
basic workouts-
back
arms
chest
legs
You should build up cardio to about 1 hr a day. Ask the employees for help, that kinda their job broseph.
