/fit/, I've probably been in starvation mode since early February. How do I get out of it and get my metabolism back into place? I should note that it was never really high, I'm an endomorph, and I've been overweight since I was 8. Just some general info...

Eat 3 meals and 2 snacks (between breakfast-lunch and lunch-dinner time) everyday and do moar cardio.
And lifting weights is good for everyone.

Here's a prime example of how it worked for me... And I'm a natural fatty too.
But it helps to give yourself a bit (just a bit) of a calorie deficit- stay the fuck away from "starvation mode"

But I'm just so afraid of stepping up from what I'm eating now (800-1000 calories). I'm a male, 5'3.5" (still growing, I'll admit) and 168ish (from 196). but again, I'm afraid of trying to fix my metabolism, and then gaining weight, then trying to lose it without succeeding, and just getting sad in the end and quitting.

Just this one, or of me in general?

I'm not really a pro on this (hell no one here is) and since you're a dude I would say you should have a bit more calories, but since you're short that might not work...? I dunno.

Try working out more, even if you don't own any weights. Pushups, situps, jumping jacks, etc...

Eating more food will cause your metabolism to rise. With the amount of calories you are taking in right now your body is going to store as much fat as possible. Eating more will make your body switch over to burning more fat.

Start eating lots and lots of food, very often (the whole 5-6 small meals per day thing).

But here's the thing: make all of it healthy, low-calorie, nutrition-filled food. An example would be something like honeydew melon, oats, or cottage cheese. These are all things that are packed with nutrition but are not all that dense as far as calories go.

Also, start drinking lots and lots of water (if you aren't doing that already). Drink it throughout the day.

Also, do cardio, but instead of doing it on long sessions once-per-day, do it in short, intense bursts, perhaps in the morning and in the evening. Over time, long, regular sessions of cardio will put your body into fat-storing mode, because it will think there are hardships in store. But short intense bursts will not do this, and they will still raise your metabolism. For example, you could do 15-20 minutes of really hard cardio in the morning and the evening.

Strength training also. Even if you don't have access to a gym, there are still ways you can build muscle using your own body as resistance. I don't have any suggestions as far as this goes, because I have never done this because I have a gym membership. But, you could probably look some of these up online. Build up your muscles = build up your metabolism.

To be honest, going into starvation mode in the first place was a shitty idea. NEVER DO THAT AGAIN. That is not a good way to lose weight. The suggestions that I have provided above are all ways that you *might* be able to get out of starvation mode without gaining weight. But to be honest, even if you're extremely careful, you may still gain a few pounds because that's just how the body is when it comes out of starvation mode.

OP here, there are a few things:

I can't really have a 5 meal plan. When I wake up, I eat breakfast and go to school. no more chances of eating until lunch. I then come home at four, and I don't want to eat in the little time between then and dinner. Also because of that, no time for morning running (I do it after I come home usually).

Should I just go to a nutritionist?
