Do most body builders train in any martial arts? Or do they just lift?
>> Anonymous
no. martial arts don't give them ZA PUMPU

Lift. They train the wrong muscles for that, plus the big muscles just get in the way.

Says studies, body builders and common sense.

I train Shooto, so big muscles would be a hindrance, the same as it would be for wing tsun etc.

There's some big guys where I train martial arts, not bodybuilders, but weightlifters certainly. The bulk does get in the way depending on the style.

I know mariusz is a blackbelt and has done some boxing, I also know Flex Wheeler (pic related) got into BBuilding from training for a martial art.
Alot of them were skinny guys who started weights to compliment their karate\other shit they did to try to feel safer\more confident, then ended up taking up weights 100%.

I highly doubt it. Most people get into overboard body building because of some confidence or self-image issues, not unlike a lot of people who get into martial arts; however, the difference is that the martial arts requires stong dedication and an iron will, so a lot of people wash out and into something easier-- namely, body building and weight lifting.

Not a builder. He trains strength, not definition and size. Although he does happen to have a massive physique.

Bren Foster. He was the TKD blackbelt in Fight Science. He used to do bodybuilding and was successful in it.

Large muscles do impair flexibility by a negligible amount, and would not be suited to some martial arts, but for most, and especially TKD, it would be perfectly fine, maybe even beneficial, if anything. The myth that large muscles are slow is just a myth, and one that might land you in a pool of shit if you make the underestimation in the wrong situation.
