Rippetoe Squat sasuke
Coach Rippetoe squats 315 for 10 reps. My question is why does he teaches people to do squats that looks like deadlift? Not trying to question his knowledge, but i was taught to keep an upright torso while squatting?

It depends on your body structure and how strong your other muscles are. You're really not supposed to keep your upper body completely straight on a squat. The sweet spot is 15 to 30 degrees.

It looks like Mr. Rip has relatively long femurs, so if his upper body stayed upright he'd topple backwards. Thus he leans forward to compensate.

Upright torso is pretty rotten form usually, although it depends on your particular body ratios. Maybe a guy with really short thighs can handle it.

It causes too much bending at the knee when proper depth is being obtained. Try to imagine how far forward his knees would have to go when in the bottom position, in order not to fall backward, if he didn't bend his back over his body and center the weight of the barbell right over his feet. Murder on the knees.

Check your form. I doubt you are going to parallel, and if so, I bet your knees are not happy.

Don't make excuses his squats are ugly with a surprising amount of back bend.

That's how olympic weightlifters squat

Olympic squats are to train the body for cleans, so the body must be in approximately that same upright position. Cleans have the barbell out front, where not much lean is necessary to put the barbell's weight directly over the feet. Pic related: the barbell is cleaned directly over the feet with minimal lean. In a OL squat, they either front-squat the load or they place it very high on the back. Neither of these weight distributions happen in powerlifting squats, which need less flexibility and technique, and where the bar is lower on the back and needs more lean to keep it over the feet.

The one static rule here:
The barbell goes over the center of the feet without too much flexion of the knees beyond the toes. Also, no one here needs to be doing OL squats unless they actually participate in OL: because you're too dumb to get the techniques right without a real coach. Stick to powercleans as per SS.

Ok, what's your point? You're not saying anything I don't know. Just saying it's not shit form to squat like that. Not everyone has flexibility problems.
