The dermatologist described it as the closest thing to a cure for acne, which I completely agree with. I had been on doxycillin, amoxycillin, and a few other medicated and over the counter drugs. None of which I was happy with. Accutane WILL make your acne worse for the first month, but that's only because your skin will be irritated by being dry at first and all the dead skin will start clogging your pores. But after that each month you should notice much clearer skin.
It's a pain in the dick to get though, tons of red tape. The only side effect I noticed was dry skin (I got very mild eczema while on it), lips, nose, and eyes. However due to the claims that it can cause depression, you have to go through your dermatologist and sign up with IPledge (at your derm's office).
If you're going to do it, get some chap stick called "Dr. Dans's cortibalm". Google it and order it online. Trust me, normal chap stick won't cut it once your getting past month 4.
