Are handgrips the best way to increase muscle mass on the forearm area? If so can anyone recommend me a good pair of handgrips? There are so many I'm not sure if I should be looking for a specific hand grips. Thanks.

I think the stick with the weight on a rope where you roll it up and down is the best. But doing heavy shrugs, weighted lunges, flies, rows, pullups, deads, etc., will work your forearms, as you lift heavier they'll get bigger without working them directly.

Signed. I was doing direct forearm work for about 3 months with little progress. Then I started up dead lifting again and my forearms were actually sore the next day for the first time ever. Pair dead lifts with farmer's walks and your arms (and traps!) will blow up.

My experience with handgrips is that they don't get me sore. It's usually low rep and high resistance so i think it increases strenght.
When i do deadlifts and pull-ups i sometime get sore after my workout. I understand because doing a deadlift makes me feel im hanging off a cliff with someone hanging off my legs.
