What does /fit/ think of high intensity interval training?
>> Anonymous
its sucks. its a super inefficient way to burn fat.
>> Anonymous
No real scientific proof. People on here love it though because it makes them feel better. Imagine doing an exercise "run X miles" or "do Y pushups", the fatties here hate that because they can't be lazy or cut corners. Instead, with HIIT it's just "run as fast as you can", the fatties slack off, and then they think convince themselves they did a good workout.

Hey man I'm offended. I'm a fatty and im doing HIIT and shit works. Your just sterotyping us fatties but in reality the only ones who come here are the ones trying to actually lose this shit. I lost 3 pounds a week doing HIIT, and I know I did it right because at times I start to black out and I start stumbling but shits good man.

I lost 6% body fat in as many weeks with resistance training and HIIT.

feels good man

i said it before and i will say it again..
do you faggots realize that you ca do both HIIT and ET?
>> Fatass_sprinter !dHCbrHI07w
My HIIT routine consists of sprinting 100 meters, walking 100 meters and then sprinting 100 meters over and over again. I've gotten it up to 6 times but the first time I tried the routine I puked up the orange I had for breakfast that day.

I would suggest you just run or join your local track and field team.

not everyone has the free time to jog/pedal for two hours.

Yes. Not only do I buttfuck men as you accurately detected, but I do both HIIT and ET.

Crossfit fag here
HIIT and ET, sprints, biking, stairs, swimming
1 year of HIIT/ET cut my triathlon time by 1/4th

Puking is part of the program.
If you don't puke you aren't working hard enough.

I used to do that. Did it for a mile then I did one cooldown lap.

What if you stop at the brink of puking for a quick break so as to not puke, then continue to the point of puking again?

Well, one must always beware the dangers of RHADBO.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhabdomyolysis

Nothing wrong with taking a break. I would not advocate going ALL OUT with puking as the goal in mind. The guys I train with (ex-military, real hard asses) go overboard trying to see who can pound out the most sets/reps/cycles before they puke but they generally do over do it. My background is track/field and wrestling so I believe and in my experience I have seen that the plateau ~ rest ~ resume method, as you just mentioned, seems to get you more bang for your buck.

All puking is is your body adjusting to bio-chemical stress from oxygen debt and build up of lactic acid, so its nothing to fear. So pushing yourself to that point and backing off before the home stretch, so to speak, is a good way to get your body to adjust to the stress imo.

how often does that happen?

I saw it happen during a certification seminar in Boston last year. Ex-Marine who had always been a cardio beast was trying to match time with some of the seasoned Crossfit crew. Ended up with an ambulance coming, many liters of lactated ringers being pumped into the guy. He recovered and has since worked his way up to high proficiency across many of the HIIT workouts we use, but it was a close one.

Generally speaking I would say a person would have to be at a very high level of fitness before they could push their body past the red line.

That is the neat thing about our bodies; they have safety mechanisms built in that tell us when to stop.
This guy being ex-military he had trained for years and knew how to ignore pain and fatigue so he gunned it into the wall basically.

I wouldn't put too much worry into it. Progress gradually and stop when you begin to feel sick.
If you feel faint STOP immediately.
