Wisdom Teeth Anonymous
Hey /fit/,

Have any of you ever had or heard of headaches caused by wisdom teeth while lifting weights? On the left side of my jaw the wisdom tooth is coming in at around a 45 degree angle against my back molar. The last few times I've been to the gym I've started to get mild to intense headaches while lifting weights, particularly during the last few reps of lifting a particularly heavy weight. It doesn't matter what exercise I'm doing (except abs); I've now experienced these headaches working every body part. I read something about holding your breath causing pressure, so I've been making sure to breathe properly, but that didn't seem to be the cause. The pain seems to be specific to the left side of my neck and head, including the back of my head on the left side. Taking some Advil pre-workout seemed to help a little bit, but the headaches were still noticeable, and I can't see this as a good long-term solution.

Bottom line: 1) Is it reasonable to think that my incoming wisdom teeth are the cause of these headaches? Obviously I won't know until I have them removed, which won't be for another month, but until then, 2) do you think it's safe to just bear the pain and keep hitting the gym? I'd hate to have to take a month-long break.

Depends how bad it is. If it's a minor headache, just watch it and drink plenty of water. If your head is caving in, stop and go see a doctor.

Better to stop now and be out for a month then to keep going and be out for a year.

Push yourself but don't hurt yourself.
