BREAD: What exactly is the difference between Whole Grain, Whole Wheat, and Rye?

As far as I understand it, they are all healthy, and any sort of "white" bread is the bad stuff. Right?

Is one kind more healthy compared to another kind? Are one of those kinds actually not healthy and is just a shit term thought up by marketing to confuse someone into thinking they are eating healthy?

well, rye is different cuz it's FUCKING DELICIOUS. though i believe it's closer to white bread than whole grain/wheat.. but whole grain rye is available. still not as healthy as regular whole grain though

The difference between wheat breads and white is the level of blanching and cleaning that goes on. A lot of the nutrients in a full wheat kernel are lost when it's converted to white flour, and that's why there's a mentality that whole wheat breads are more 'healthy'. They do contain more vitamins and minerals, yes, but the common conception of 'healthy' nowadays is low calorie. Wheat breads are actually higher calorie across the board than white breads. If you're on a low calorie diet, don't bother with wheat and just eat white bread.

Don't listen to him. If you want bread go for whole wheat because that means that the entire (unbleached) wheat kernel is used. So it has more fiber and nutrients. Whole wheat does not metabolize into sugar as quickly as white and is more filling.

All the fat in the egg is located in the yolk. Since I save eating my fats for later in the day I make my breakfast omelet using only egg whites.

Nope. White bread is processed so only the starch remains. Whole wheat has the germ and the bran intact. They most definitely are NOT the same thing.

Saying they are the same thing is like saying fresh apples and apple juice are the same thing.

Whole Wheat: A shitty way of trying to make you think you're buying whole grain when you're not

Whole Grain: Uses all three parts of the grain as opposed to one. Always get whole grain, never get white or whole wheat.

People on here are always confused and say whole wheat instead of whole grain.

Overall energy is the same.
Full corn is only digested a bit slower.
Personally if I eat bread regularly, I gain fat like a pig.

Whats important is the fiber content, fiber acts as an insulin poathway medeator, and helps satbilize blood sugar levels, along with making you feal more full longer. Whole wheat (or preferably whole grain wheat) also has more protein then white bread, the whole wheat bread I use has the following nutritional values, as compared to white.

whole wheat|White
fat: 1G|1G
sugar: 1G|1G
carbs: 7G|11G <- total non-sugar non-dietary fiber carbohydarates
Fiber: 2G|0G
protein: 4G|1G
Calories: 50|70

Keep in mind that the white bread I'm comparing to is actually much healthier then most, and it has 20 more calories, 2G less fiber, almost twice the net carbs, twice as much sugar, and much much less protein.

Unfortunately finding whole wheat bread that is actually as healthy as it could be is quite dificult, even the stuff I used as an example isn't quite as good as it should be, it could have more fiber and shouldn't have any sugar.
