hey /fit/

a couple of days ago, there was a frank yang thread on here. later on in the discussion we began talking about building certain types of muscles. The type that frank yang supposedly has are deceivingly

small but powerful. im guessing this is what allows him to jump so high, and have explosive power to do things like snatch a 100lb dumbbell with one arm.

Im taking a great interest in this because ive always been very muscular with little or no exercise, ive figured that im a mesomorph body type, and i dont use weights because i really dont like the XBAWK HUEG look of people who lift alot of weights all the time, so for the past 2 years or so, ive only done bodyweight training, jump roping, boxing etc.

the other day i decided to try the method suggested in the thred lifting and doing reps that i could only do about 3-5. i think i did 230 on leg ext and 230 bench, just wanted to figure out how much i could do 5 of.

but dont power lifters do about the same amount of reps? and they get HUGE!

/fit/ am i going about this right?

>but dont power lifters do about the same amount of reps? and they get HUGE!
the lighter weight classes aren't huge
if you train for strength you'll get strong
if you eat big you'll get big
if you do both you'll get big and very strong
what you do is up to you

>i think i did 230 on leg ext
i wouldn't max on leg extensions
that can be bad on your knees
do squats instead

you dont know what you want.

you are uncomfortable with being larger because you have been small your whole life, and have no other viewpoint.

put on some muscle, and see how i feels, i guarantee you will want to be 30lbs + more than your initial goal when you reach it

dude, you bench 230 with no training??? i wanna know your height weight and possibly post a pic...

It's bullshit.

Frank Yang's "deceitfulness" lies not in his muscles but in his central nervous system. He trains for relative strength. He is today however 171 pounds at 5'6", far from "small".

Powerlifters often train like bodybuilders. They will often be seen targeting antagonists (such as the biceps during the bench press, with bicep curls) as the believe this will build numbers on the bench. Despite what you will be told, they, like many weightlifters will train like bodybuilders to increase muscular hypertrophy to change weight classes.

If you are looking for a true test of strength, athleticism, try the Sport of Weightlifting. Not powerlifting.

>>190684

ok, well we know its hella easier to bench that on a machine rather than free weights. its not that amazing when your using a machine :-/. but ill post pics tonight when i get a chance

also, im 5'7, i weigh about 160lbs thought i havent weighed myself in a while. (people say i dont have much fat, but dammit i know fat when i see it!)

K, Frank isn't 'small' by most standards. He's pretty muscular, it's just that in his videos, especially in the mixtape, he looks small.

I've seen Frank's workout routine, and he doesn't go past 5 reps often. He also incorporates plyometrics into his workout, which helps with explosiveness.

plyometrics is something i really need to start working on
