I quit WOW a couple months ago. I was an addict, I had the Gladiator title, was know around the server and was in top end raid gear plus I had a level 70 of all classes on both horde and alliance (totaling 18 lvl 70s). So by default I was a fatass.

My desktop computer died and I started lurking /fit/ on my crappy laptop. Got some great advice, started exercising more, have lost a total of 40lbs, and gained a bunch of muscle. Thank you /fit/ .

I'm afraid all my work is about to be undone soon. Since the release of WOTLK, I'm tempted everywhere I go to start playing again. I have just feeling that I just gotta level them all to 80, gear them up and get a death knight on either side.

Last night I almost renewed my account. I am ashamed. What should I do? Help me /fit/. Help me.

>I had the Gladiator title, was know around the server and was in top end raid gear plus I had a level 70 of all classes on both horde and alliance (totaling 18 lvl 70s)

I don't know about the titles and what not as I've never played WOW, but from what I have read I am guessing this was a major time investment. As I understand from a little Googling, it takes approximately 5 to get your character to the top level. 5 days x 24 hours x 18 times means that you have spent at least 2160 hours of your life playing a video game. Maybe a better investment of your time and money would be in the form of addiction counseling and anonymous group therapy sessions--I'm not trying to be mean, but your behavior seems extremely unhealthy.

>Got some great advice, started exercising more, have lost a total of 40lbs, and gained a bunch of muscle.

Good for you. Feels good man.

>I'm tempted everywhere I go to start playing again. I have just feeling that I just gotta level them all to 80, gear them up and get a death knight on either side.

What exactly do you accomplish by doing this? A self-esteem boost? Ever going to leave that hole you're in?

You should start again OP, new expansion is great. New continent to explore! Tons of new items, monsters, instances and 10 more levels! hello! Death Knight alone is worth it. New class is freaking awesome.

OP, the question is, can you maintain your current fitness plan while restarting what was obviously an addiction for you? Has fitness taken the place of WOW in your heart, or is it really just a chore?

Can you play without snacking absentmindedly on fatty foods? Can you be trusted not to log into WOW until you've completed your workout for the day?

If you can answer those questions, I guess you can try. But if I were you, I'd keep up the good work and stay the fuck away from MUMORPUGERS. They are an absolute waste of time and indicative of you not having enough interesting RL hobbies/responsibilities.

I know from experience.

OP, I was in the same boat, and have considered picking up WOTLK. Even since I quit my social life has been non existant, I go to work, workout, play squash, cook food. I believe the key is to keep a routine, designate say..3 hours max per day to play and stick with that regardless of friends asking you to play more etc etc. Wotlk is the same as BC regardless of new content and whatever. You will feel depressed and worthless if you fall into the same rut. Don't play at all or play in moderation!
>> Redhot !wJoMC4BYEY
Dear OP,

Let me break down WoW for you.
You level up to max level, you go for raiding, you get all the endgame raid gear, next content, you clear it, more gear, next content, more gear. New Expansion, ALL GEAR IS OBSOLETE, you level up to max level, you get best endgame raid gear... repeat.

PvP Side, you win an arena season, new season, you come top 5 in your battlegroup, new season, new gear, same shit, over and over and over again.

In the end whats the fucking point? You spend hours getting the best shit only for it to get replaced in an instant. The game is going to be more and more casual friendly aka epics everywhere and it's just boring. Watch a film or something, seriously.
>> Anonymous
You know what to do, OP: stay the FUCK away from WoW if you can't control yourself.

Think about your priorities, man. Would you rather use that time building your body - or on something that isn't tangible in the first place?
>> Anonymous
18 level 70's has me borderline thinking it's a troll but whatever.

I play WoW too, like you I've got a gladiator title and I'm well known through-out my server. And yes, I have 162 days /played time on my druid alone, I play A LOT.

But I also exercise a lot, it helps because I love it. Yet even when I don't feel like getting out and doing it, I force myself to lift or do cardio 1-2 times a day. Just don't use WoW as an excuse to NOT go work out, that's all. You really are not sacrificing that much game time by doing an hour or two of exercise a day. Once you get into better shape, pick a physical activity that you enjoy to do and work at it. It's hard motivation to keep working out if the only things you're doing is lifting and running when you're only doing it for the vanity and not the pleasure of them. And once you get a good amount of fat off, the anxiety of starting a sport will be completely gone.

Enjoy the expansion if you NEED to, but also enjoy getting outside as well. Good luck

I just renewed WoW after a few months on hiatus, had 3 Gladiators(From S3, quit after that, sold a few characters also) and 9 70's. Wasn't a fatass but I wasn't in very good shape. Gained about 25 pounds of muscle while losing body fat the last few months and I feel great.

I just use it after working out / running(like I am doing now) to chillax or when I have a few hours to kill.
I just don't think of it as a whole lot of fun anymore, since it never really was it was more just social with the people I played with. I just use it as a time waster now, rather then an obligation.

Change your state of mind about the game or your fucked.

Just say no is not an effective treatment for addiction, drug or otherwise.
OP, you simply need enough incentive to NOT go back. Give a friend 100 dollars, and have them come check on your every other day to make sure you don't have an account. After two months, if you're clean, you get back the 100 dollars and you can go buy yourself something cool. If you activate your account, you lose the 100 bucks.
Trust me, this system works for drug addicts, it can work for you too.

haha jesus OP was a clone of me

I quit after we got 2500 and didn't get vglad, haven't looked back since and lost 40lbs and put on some MUSSLE

my old arena team is tempting me to come back to play but I told them the most I could do is level to 80 casually and just fuck around

I'd never un-do all my hard work these past months for anything, ever. Play a friends account or something but I know deep down that WoW blows and will always blow, the only reason to play occasionally is to play with friends, and if I have to be a casual faggot who never logs on that's fine, it's better than a no life fat faggot

I used to play WoW and other MMORPGs. In the end, I wasn't pay enough attention to my gf nor my studying and I was lazy as fuck (a great part of me being a skinny fat is because of these shitty games).

One day, my friends and I got together (we're all around 22-23 yo). They kept talking about builds, instances, etc. For some reason I felt sick and had to leave early. It felt like they were just a bunch of immature fucks who did the stupidest things, like eating shit only once a day, wasting money on a gym membership they didn't use and all kind of lame acts of procrastination.

A few days later, at work, I heard these 18-19 years old fucks who spoke l337 all the time, were failing at school and didn't care much about anything. Plus, they were all EPIC WINZ, U FAIL, <verb> is <verb>, etc.

Then it struck me. I felt the time for me being a kid was sort of over and I didn't want to look or sound like those guys.
I tried to get fit on my own (I was smoking a pack of cigarettes a day) by running, doing pushups, situps just to get some endurance.

Few months ago I started going to the gym. I'm doing a hypertrophy routine and I'm planning to switch to a strenght program as soon as I become a little bit stronger.

Ever since that day I felt sick at my friend's house, I've been feeling incredibly happy. I'm taking my things more seriously, I got back together with my gf and I even convinced one of my friends to hit the gym with me.

Every time I have the slightest urge to reactivate my WoW account or play some stupid game for hours I remember that I don't wont to be one of those guys at work for no fucking reason.

Try to keep in mind that no game will ever make you feel as good as when you're done with your routine, you take a shower and head back home.

WoWfag reporting in. A lot of the people in /fit/ do not understand the addictive nature of this video game. I too had similar issues with the game (although not quite as extreme). I had five level 70 characters, two of which had the Gladiator title in multiple seasons and a tier 6 level raiding character. When my guild killed Kil'jaeden, the final boss of the Burning Crusade expansion, I took a much needed break from the game. It has been six months since I quit and I was able to enjoy my social life again and catch up with all of the people I used to hang out with every day. I lost about 25 pounds during my six month hiatus and I was feeling pretty good. Unfortunately, I couldn't help myself. I purchased the new expansion on the midnight release and I have been in my room on a WoW binge since release, stopping occasionally to lurk a bit. It is a nasty cycle that I really want to break, but it is too hard. You are really better off without it man, really.

Botting is slower than playing when you're a skilled pro.
All the good players will be able to level to level cap in 3 days of play time (no I won't tell you how. but heres a tip: group play) while the botters would usually take more than a week. Actually participating in BGs will net on average 5x more honor than a botter if you're playing alone. Hell, I get Honor capped in 1 day of playing (try premades the with good players. non stop wins each taking about 3 mins). And also, you can't bot your way to end game raid items

All you need is one rule: If you haven't exercised you can't play WoW.

For you fags that don't understand the mechanics behind MMPORGS, every time you "accomplish" something your brain gets a jolt of seratonin. MMPORGS provide an easy way to repeatedly trigger that accomplishment / seratonin hit. That's why people play them like crack addicted monkies hammering away at the button that gives them their next fix.

It's natural brain chemistry. The important thing is to make it work for you rather than against you.

To be honest, I was SO FUCKING SICK of WoW right near the end of S3 there.

BC sucked. Let's face it.

But fuck, since I booted up WRATH, and I'm not even fucking trolling you, I've had as much fun as I did when I started playing.

It's honestly like being back in the fucking barrens, having 10,000 people the same level as you everywhere, general channels constantly spammed, and incredibly easy to find groups to instance with.

I'm not really that addicted; I have on 73 and one 60.

It's shit tons of fun, and if you can control your addiction, I'd highly recommend playing it.

Then again, you're a fucking fail.

When it was at worst I used to play this game like 12-13 h a day!.. thats right people... I was out of work and all I did ALL DAY LONG was to play this game. Occasionally go to the bathroom and eat instant food, but that was it...

Well, what can I say, it took its toll. Lost my gf and gained weight like a mofo! And yes, its mainly because one does tend to have little or none self control, but also, this game is retardedly addictive!

Now days thou, I settle for a few hours each day, always do jogging on a daily basis and eat healthier home made food. So yes, it is possible to break you're bad habits and pick a more healthy lifestyle.
