so i was at the gym today doing curls and this guy i know comes up to me and shows me his way of doing them

he does a half curl 10 times then curls it again 10 times but this time starting from the half. he says it's a lot harder than doing a full range curl

the first thing that came into my head was "this looks like an idiot's way of exercising since full range of motion = more work done" but i'm not very knowledgeable on this so i came to ask /fit/.

Why do 20 half curls when you can do 10 full curls? It's a waste of time

yeah thats what i said in my head. but he claims its harder to do and you feel the pump more.

unless you already have a ton of mass and want to tone it or work on specific areas its dumb as fuck. You know whats harder than his exercise and hits the biceps even more? 20 chinups. Why doesn't he got and do that? too fucking weak thats why.

Why don't you have a seat...and tell me this gentleman's name?

Some old guy (professor I think) does this too. He only goes about 40% range of motion either way, and never brings an arm to a full stop. He's also in his mid-50's and in insanely good shape, so I trust he's doing something right.

Just avoid full-body bicep curls. Those make me LOL mightily. There was a skinny Asian kid using a 40 lb. barbell doing full body curls, and fell over from the momentum. Unfortunately he caught himself on his foot before he fell.
