Low-calorie protein shake recipes + critique SQUATZ
Hey /fit/,

I've run out of protein and am heading to the supplements whorehouse later on tonight to get more. I had my lean body mass measured yesterday and I'm at 197.44 lbs. I'm currently doing weight-training 3x a week and HIIT 3x per week. I'm trying to squeeze in 5 or so sessions of moderate intensity cycling per week for at least 30 minutes after work or such.

Anyways, that's just so you know my workout routine. I'm not looking to build up a whole hell of a lot more body mass, but rather to maintain the muscle mass I already have while losing weight (I'm 6% excess body fat at the moment and trying to get rid of it). So, here's what I've been taking so far:

I've been eating about 160g protein per day spread over six meals. I've been eating the myoplex satchels just because they don't taste like pickled asshole and are damn convenient to carry around with me to work, etc.

So, when I get up in the morning I eat a myoplex deluxe satchel (53g protein (some of it casein, the rest whey) + 1g CLA + creatine), in the mid-afternoon another regular myoplex (42g protein), after workout (jugo juice shake, 31g protein + 60g carbohydrates (this is about my only reliable calorie intake for the day, about 450 calories), and another shake before bed of myoplex light (25g protein, mostly casein).

Now, I've decided that before bed I need to have more than 25g protein cause I don't want my body to go catabolic. So I've decided to buy a huge jug of casein protein... Unfortunately, it tastes like ass. What can I mix this with that's pretty low in calories yet still somewhat tasty?

I was hoping for about 2 scoops (~50g protein @110 calories/scoop) and I don't want to make this shake go much over 300 calories at most. I plan to drink it about 1.5-2 hours before bed in the normal case.

Also, as for my supplementation regiment, am I doinitrite?

Also,

tl;dr: I want to know how to add about 80-120 calories to a protein shake made of casein protein to make it not taste like ass.

Coconut milk

I use 1% milk for my protein shakes. It adds about 100 calories per serving, plus extra protein.

Though it does add fats.

couldn't you just eat some cottage cheese or tuna before going to bed?

I don't think that has enough protein for what he's going for

Cottage cheese yes, but I'm a bitch and really don't like the taste or smell. Tuna not so much. My body lacks an enzyme to help digest purines and tuna is loaded with the shit. If I eat a lot of it, I get afflicted with the awesomeness that is gout!

So, in general, no meat for me :(

A cup of cottage cheese has 25 g of protein, mostly casein, costs less per serving than powder, and tastes better.

A can of tuna has twice as much slow-digesting protein as that.

OP just needs to eat more real food. Seriously.
