Hey /b/, I eat pasta quite often (it's cheap and tastes nice), most commonly with a tuna/mayo topping, tastes nice but obviously the mayo is pretty bad. What's pasta like for your body?

From what I'm told (don't take my advice, I don't know anything) pasta is full of complex carbs. I would appreciate being able to be more educated, but this is all the info I have.

Apparently complex carbs expand or some shit and make you fat.

Yeah, oops thanks.

Expand? Weird... Yeah I'd like to know more

Also, what is a good filling meal that isn't fattening?

Depends on the type of pasta. Chances are you're eating white pasta, which is just like white bread: packed to the rafters with simple carbs that your body can convert to fat with virtually no effort. Also, virtually no other nutritional value.

Then there's whole wheat (brown) pasta, which is like whole wheat bread: full of complex carbs that take a little energy for your body to process (meaning you burn more calories digesting it), it is a little more fibrous (good for digestion) and likely has other things that your body can make use of.

Lose the mayo though.

Fucking döner kebabs. If you don't know where to find one, look them up and make them yourself.

Made correctly, they can be low in fat, high in carbs (good if you need to work it) and EXTREMELY filling.

Yeah I know about the mayo, whole wheat it is then, thanks. Anyone know any low fat toppings? Plain pasta can get pretty dull.

Health major here...

This is pretty easy to explain when it comes to carbs.

See pasta, with most breads, has glucose in it. When eaten, the pasta's digested too quickly for the glucose to be properly digested and thus this causes weight gain.

now if you want to be able to eat all the pasta you want ,though if you want to lose weight it's better to shorten your portions down, then you must take a pretty good amount of protein along with it *the protein will slow your digestion down enough for your body to break the glucose down better so it dosent end up around your waist*

Hope this helps :)

What kind of classes do you take to learn things like this?

I eat it all the time to gain muscle/weight and extra calories, though the trick is to eat it in short intervals.

>>packed to the rafters with simple carbs

you fucking monkey. all complex carbs are strings of simpler carbohydrate molecules. unless there is added sugar (sucrose, which is a simple carbohydrate) or glucose or somesuch, then it has no more 'simple carbs' than any other type of fucking pasta. stop using terms when you don't know what they fucking mean. the problem would be that it actually has a higher density of complex carbohydrates with no other nutritional value.

and since when the fuck are simple carbohydrates bad for you? get some fucking reading in you boy. in fact, if people ate more natural sources of simple carbohydrate molecules (ie fruit and vegetables) they'd be a lot healthier than your average person in the us is now.

this place makes me angry. i am feeling the rage fucking hard right about fucking now.

Don't overcook it, it's lower GI index the more al dente it is. Olive oil, lemon, flaked tuna is always tasty topping, and healthy. Or pesto and chicken.
