I'm 5.8, male, and 140 pounds. Various websites say I need 2200 calories to maintain my weight so I'm planning on 500 calorie deficit. I have a question about metabolism since I hear that lower calories mean a slower metabolism. If I create the deficit by running and keep my diet the same, would my metabolism slow down or does that only happen when you create the deficit by eating less? Or does it slow down the exact same amount whether I eat less or burn the calories through running?

Most of my weight is fat, not muscle. I'm not particularly a lardass, but chubby enough for a pair perky manboobs.

Eat as much as you like, just run a lot more. You'll lead a much happier existence doing plenty of exercise and eating well then you would starving yourself.

Also, try to split your meals up into 6 smaller meals, and avoid eating much late at night. This will keep you full throughout the day and less likely to end up binging out or wasting the energy you get from the food.
