How the fuck do I start building upper body muscle from scratch?

In college, 5'7, 189 pounds last week before I started hitting the gym harder 4 times. I've started off from no physical activity but I can see improvements in my cardio performance and my mood is great for it - I like going, I hate leaving, I feel great afterwards and have cut soda out of my diet though food wise I find I am going under for calories, and what I do eat isn't great but isn't the worst option. I know I have a long way to go but I am staying committed.

But all I am doing is cardio right now, and I'd like to work on upper body muscles too rather than just thin down or focus on my legs. But my arms are fucking weak as shit and my chest and back aren't great but are maybe a -little- bit better than my arms. My plan was to purchase some simple 5, 10, or 15 pound weights and find out what kinds of lifts I should do with them, so I can gain some degree of muscle to go further.

What would you folks advise for someone JUST beginning weight training? A real weakling.

always try and lift more than you think you can, that has always worked for me and i surprise myself sometimes. decline and incline bench press, flys, all that jazz

im sorry, but is /fit/ a fucking revolving door? when 99% of the traffic each day are completely new to /fit/ and any concept of training?

Anon, you have asked this question, with out fail, at least 10x a day, every day. always.

then you ask about losing weight, with out fail, at least 10x a day, every day. always.
