I'm trying to build a 1000-1700 calorie a day diet to go along with running several miles a day, and lifting 100+ pounds for a few hours a day.
Does anyone have any good websites or such for building a great diet? Nothing exotic and overly expensive, just common household foods and whatnot.

Height: 6 feet, 2 inches
Weight : 210 pounds
BMR: 2200

I am going to post this every time I come to /fit/ until everyone gets it. If you need examples, just ask and I will explain that too when I have time. Think of a diet as a template, for a successful diet is usually not a temporary thing, but a lifestyle transformation into different 'comfort foods' that you replace your fattening comfort foods with. Learn, grasshopper:

There is no secret to eating healthy, anyone can do it. Here's how...

-Stop eating simple sugars other than the fructose you get from fruit, stop eating simple flour/rices lacking their fiber, and stop eating starchy potato shit all the time. These are the foods that make people fat-NOT meat in any way, shape or form. Meat is your friend in weight loss because of the complexity of animal fats and proteins and their digestion by the human body. If you think animal fat=human fat, you are wrong.
-Eat whenever you are hungry, and eat to contention; you do not need to worry about eating in moderation when you eat healthy. Trust your body to know when to stop eating too much salad and steak with a bowl of fruit. Believe or not, it just knows.
-On a related note, *do* eat red meat--you need the protein/minerals/et cet that only red meat provides. And any meat that you want for that matter, even the real fatty cuts.
-Do *not* eat whole wheat (which is junk food), but rather whole grain (fiber/natural vitamins&minerals et cet)
-Any nuts/cheeses/whole grain crackers/fruit are great, tasty healthy snacks to replace your junk food
-You know you are eating healthy if you see a sudden (very) noticable change...ie, you will probably shit more, and your shits will probably be somewhat larger than what you are accustomed to
-The most important sign of dietary improvement is that you will feel less hungry as you continue eating healthy (lots of healthy fats/proteins/fiber will curb your hunger in a guilt-free way that no potato chip bag can replace)

Good luck.

Some fatties can't control themselves.

Part of the trick is that you need to eat slowly, your body doesn't instantaneously stop feeling hungry the second you put food in it. And think of all the extra calories you'll lose if you chew for longer!

Good. When they start uncontrollably vomiting/shitting from all the healthy stuff they devoured, they will naturally adjust to a more comfortable eating pattern.

You guys assume that fatties will be able to control themselves at all. Some people really are addicted to food, and telling them to wait for their body's signal for fullness doesn't work. Why? Because they've lived their whole lives ignoring that signal. Even if they puke they'll put it down to something else. "Oh it was the dressing. Oh, maybe I didn't wash the fruit enough. Oh, I haven't had steak in a while, I guess that's why."

Some people really do benefit of at least a rough idea of what they should limit themselves at.

Begin by limiting your protein intake, as it is converted to fat more rapidly than sodium and carbs. Feel free to enjoy caffiene free soda on occasion as the caff is where the real health problems come from.

Once you do that, you can slowly adjust your main meal untill it is high sodium and carb based (such as healthy asian instant noodle dishes that are quite cheap from most nearby stores). Be sure to get the plain 'beef' or 'chicken' flavors, as the terms 'creamy' or 'savory' usually imply lard was added to the seasonings.

Once your diet is in check then, and only then, should you begin your weightloss workout regime. Try to be regular, and do the same workout at the same time every day, that way you get used to it and don't get bored and quit early. Some may recommend a combo of strength and aerobic training, but for the starter with a focus on weight loss like you I would say you are much better off just doing 1 or 2 hours of HIIT (broken down into 3 or 4 intervals) daily for a few months.

This should be fine for your first step! See you later on your road to health!!

You can't ignore it, and the only reason you think it implausible is because you eat shit all the time and have no concept of healthy eating. Like I said in my copypasta, it's going to be a big fucking shock to your system when you stop eating all this processed shit and start eating what nature intended. Maybe a severely unstable person will vomit from gorging themselves, most likely anyone will get full faster by no choice of their own and have to shit more often. In any case, the signal is impossible to ignore. See how much more steak you can eat after you've downed a steak and some sugar-free caesar salad and a couple glasses of tea/water. Bet if you are the fattest fuck in the world and you eat another steak, you're body is going to be sending the clearest fucking signal you've ever felt/seen when you reach for the third steak (read: profuse vomitting). Your body KNOWS

so if i eat shitty quality meat from my job for free, combined with nuts/cheeses/whole grain crackers/fruit whenever else im hungry, thats fine for diet?

or is that oversimplifying it? does it ahve to be good meat, or just fast food hamburger patties with no bun or whatever?
>> Anonymous
>>268941
That's exactly what I am saying, and that's not oversimplifying it at all. As long as you are following that first rule about the simple flour/sugar in regards to your food choices, you are going a long way to helping yourself. One of my favorite burgers is the '$6 Burger' from Carl's Junior, with lettuce as the bun. I made a simple change by removing the bun, but I am sparing my body from having to make glycogen and fat that it doesn't need, while still making my taste buds happy (get it in your head, white bread=fat and a detriment to your energy). It's such a small, trivial change, but one with massive dividends in the long run. A bunch of these 'small' changes mean a healthier lifestyle/happier you, and is a sort of self-discipline that you can feel good about.

It's even simpler than that. Burn more calories than you take in, and you'll lose weight.

Of course, 400 calories of oranges is much more substantial and filling than say 400 calories of fast food (probably a small burger).

On the other hand, I hope you have a bit more variety in your diet--there are so many healthy/yummy foods if you think about it. You can still eat bread, for example, but make sure it is whole grain anything (rye, grain, pumpernickel, whatever). Maybe on the weekends you like to eat some pancakes or the like? Have some whole grain toast with some natural butter and natural peanut butter (ingredients=peanuts/peanut oil) instead, or some whole grain sugar-free squares with milk and a nectarine and some tea, or a cheese popover made with almond flour et cet. Don't ever think that eating healthy means restricting yourself from enjoyment while eating, but rather a change in your normal 'comfort' food. After you've done it for a month or so, it will come naturally to you.
