Hey fit, I'm starting to get much more serious about weight lifting and personal fitness (I lost 50 pounds so far!) and cardio just isn't cutting it. For the past 3 weeks I've been slowly moving from machines to free weights and learning new exercises along the way. I love it so far.

Right now I'm trying to learn how to do basic lunges, can anyone give me a good comprehensive guide (or a gif) to doing proper lunges?

Note: Losing weight is fucking AWESOME.

Get down on your knees. Now swing one of your legs forward and set one of your feet so you're sort of kneeling. Sit so that your front foot is planted far enough forward that both of your knees are at right angles. Now stand up. Try to step forward into this position and stand back up in it, keeping your back straight (good posture) the whole time.

Congratulations. You can now do lunges.

Also, when you're doing the lunges for real your knees should never actually touch the ground, just be close to touching it.

Get an olympic bar and an adequate amount of weight and shoulder it like your going to do some squats (in before SQUATZ and other faggotry) take a decent sized step forward and drop (make sure that your foot goes straight out when you step forward and not inward or outward, as those positions are very hard on your knees and ankles), don't let your knee touch the ground, then push your way back up. You will know the next day if you did them correctly because your upper quads and ass will be very very sore. Good luck!
