Fatty needs help. Anonymous
I've always been a big guy- ever since I can remember. But I'm more out of shape now than I've ever been- and I want to change this. I want to drop a lot of weight, to look good, to win back an old girlfriend and look good for job interviews. I'm 19, 6'1 and about 350 pounds.

Where do I start? I can't exactly afford a personal trainer, but I can get a YMCA membership, and start eating healthy and just try to exercise as much as possible instead of just sitting around the computer all day.

Multivitamins, supplements, etc, how much will they help? What do you suggest?

I've honestly never felt this sick with my body before, and I'm tired of being a fatty. I realize I'm probably not going to drop as much weight as I'd like, but I'd like to atleast look good.

Desucat not related.

Drop junk food and soda.
Get on a bicycle.
Bike for a few miles.
Drink water.
Eat small snacks and small meals.
Enjoy!

My room mate is in the same situation you are, so ill tell you what i told him. You need to start by making your diet better, if you want i can even link you to the diet ive got him on. Right now he walks for 30 minutes every afternoon before dinner and does light weight training with low weight and high reps. Youll want to start drinking more water so as to help your system run better and therefore help you optimize weight loss.

You're on the right track. Get sick of not being fit. Then exercise. Do anything. Seriously, cardio seemed to help me out the most, but I seriously regret not getting into a more proper weight training regimen, didn't train everything. Top 2 things that really helped me out were changing my diet, I'm gradually phasing out the heavier carbs, the junk food, and recently went cold turkey on soda (wow, that actually does really make a difference, and soda now tastes like crap). The second thing was joining a regular fitness program. Having people there to encourage you to give 110% is definitely worth it.

OP here:

Salads are probably going to be the most bang for my buck as far as 'cheap food that tastes good and fills me up without undoing my exercise', right?

Getting rid of the junk food tomorrow. Weening myself off of soda, though it won't be entirely unavoidable.

What does /fit/ think of these?: http://www.sobebev.com/product_info/lean_green.shtml

Going to start tomorrow with getting my mom to buy stuff for salads or vegetable soup (not underage B&, just living at home for college) and probably going to start jogging after investing in a MP3 player.

Cut sugar and carbohydrates. Try to have a diet more of less fatty meats, veggies, and fruits, because when you eat bread, pasta and other carbohydrates like that all your body does is convert them into sugars anyways. The best way to lose fat is intensive exercises, so look that up if you want an bunch of them. I"m trying to lose weight now too, but I"m 6' 3" 230 lbs. Pretty much if it makes you sweat alot and makes you feel like you're heating up then it's working. I've been doing sprints, jump rope, and that kind of stuff, but you might be more interested in aerobic classes are martial arts type stuff. Martial arts are just as intense and a lot more fun then just running back and forth.

I'm not quite weeaboo enough to be interested in martial arts, I figure a circuit of the machines and then some time on the elliptical machines would be just as effective, and is more my style.

Oh hells yeah! I forgot about an Mp3 player. Invest! If I get a song with a decent beat, I time my footfalls to the music, and pound it out much faster. I listen to lots of industrial and some euro dance stuff. Booyah.

As for eating leaner, maybe cutting out some fattier meat would be a good thing, but don't cut red meat down too much. I did it, and ended up seriously anemic. Being able to do nothing but sleep all days sucks, trust me.

oh, avoid the shit out of "diet" drinks. They are no good for you on all accounts, including weight loss. Try just drinking an actual herbal tea chilled down, add a little sweetener if you need to, but berry-type teas don't really need it.

Cutting meat of your diet completely, and not doing it properly can make someone anemic. If you cut out red meat but still it lean meats, you will not have a problem.

YOU are the only limit to what YOU can accomplish.

here's an idea, how about instead of coming here and asking your stupid questions you go and actually read up on fitness, health and diet? you know, empower yourself and shit?

if you want to be healthy and fit, why don't you read about what healthy and fit people do?

if everyone googled their information and no one asked questions on this forum the forum wouldn't exist..
