Dearest /fit/,

I've been lurking for quite some time now. I have an honest question for you. I have been signed up at a gym for a while, but I don't go all the time. I know you are supposed to go about 4 or 5 days a week, work one muscle group, yadda yadda yadda. I know a lot about fitness, etc, but I have not been able to find the motivation to go more than once or twice a week. I am only a little overweight (145 at 5'4" [and don't make fun of my height, I'm here for a serious answer]) and I'm in pretty good health. I eat fruits and veggies, lean meats, and only the occasional muffin or serving of chips (once or twice a week, if that). I was wondering what kind of advice /fit/ would have for the "half-motivated" as I would call it. How do you get that extra boost to keep going and never give up?

Inb4 "GTFO", "kill yourself, faggot" and other nasty and therefore not appreciated posts.

Obviously you don't know as much as you think, it's good to work several muscle groups in a single workout. Also, doing this you can get away with working out three times a week.

The only other advice I can give you is keep at it, force yourself to go even if it feels like the last thing in the world you'd rather do, when you start seeing results, you'll enjoy it.

Yeah, forgot to mention that I do back and biceps in one workout sometimes, and chest and triceps usually. Plus, SQUATZ. This is OP by the way. I knew about the whole double muscle groups, but forgot to mention it. Thanks for the advice on just absolutely forcing myself to go, by the way. I think I need a phrase or something that's going to keep me motivated, like>>241909seems to have with his music.

You dont need to go 4 or 5 days. I do 3 days a week, you need to do COMPOUND exersises (squatz, bench press, military press) fuck what the health fags say, just eat 3 square meals with about 50grams of protien in each meal daily and youll see gains. dont be a faggot

5 times is alot imo. My gym is one of the more expensive ones, so I force myself to go at least 3 times a week to make it worth the money. (I can also take seminars freely. spinning, stepping etc.)

I go on mondays, wednesdays and fridays. Giving myself 48 hours of rest between goes. I dont go on weekends because they close early (2 pm) and I usually sleep late then because of hangovers.

Does that work for you? It works on so many levels. If you need a phrase to motivate you seriously what the fuck. Set goals and work towards them.

i was feeling really unmotivated at the end of the school year this last semester, stopped logging my lifts, etc. went to ocs for the usmc and realized that life could be fucking worse, now i've been going every day again. Sometimes you just need a swift kick in the ass to get you jumpstarted again

what i usually do to stay motivated is either have a goal, an ideal body type, and every so often check it out, see where you're at. Also, variety is the spice of life. Listen to music while lifting for awhile, then don't. Run a bit, do some cross-shit, then lift some more. Change your workouts. Think about your next meal, always. ALWAYS. uhh, lets see what else. Think how much of a bad ass motherfucker you are, if you wanna be a loud and vicious animal spreading hate pain and discontent. Read up on lifting. Try new supplements. Go outside of your comfort zone - if you've never been rock climbing, but are afraid of heights, for example, go out and climb some fucking rocks. it REALLY helps if you have a buddy.

Logging lifts really does help though, it helps you notice your progress better than you otherwise would.
