is this sorta thing worth it? I wanted to do chins/pulls/muscle ups so I googled up something, and it took me to a promotional site for the Iron Gym total upper body bar, which showed it hooking around a door frame and holding up only by "leverage." so then...

1. does that hold well? I'm not that heavy, but I don't want it to break anyway should I lean back or anything
2. does it damage the door frame?
3. is it worth it for 30 bucks, or should I dig for an offbrand that costs half as much?

or barring all that, 4. are there any good alternate solutions other than screw-in models, 200 dollar full sets, or "lol go to a park or gym"

better you learn to do it off odd places, i mean the reason we suggest you do pullups is to eventually be strong enough to do muscle ups, then to do single arm pullups, then single arm muscle ups- in the event you are chased down by something or someone as apocalypse dawns, you have the capability that less that 1% of population does, lift your entire bodyweight through 180 degrees of motion using only your arms. It will come in handy nigger, trust me.

that's an interesting proposal, but I doubt that I would need to do a one-handed muscle-up over a tree branch rather than like a metal beam or something. in the event that I would, the adrenaline rush combined with the ability to do a one-handed muscle up from a workout bar would probably enable me to perform such a stylish parkour feat.

I invested in a chin-dip station. $100 from a local sports retailer. Two caveats: I had the space for it (it has a large-ish footprint), and it supported up to 220 lbs. To get one that would support a heavier person was substantially more expensive (like $400 or more).

Just get a screw in model for $15.

They dont "damage doorframes." They put 3 small screw holes in each side that can easily be puttied over if you're worried about a landlord bitching. The only place I would say "NO" is a metal door frame, obviously, or a college dorm. Other than that just get one.
