Haha. I'm an ectomorph like OP, though I've gained a good bit of weight. I don't use weights or anything, didn't ever bother think to with them.
I do calisthetics twice a day, and since my apartment is near a playground and I smoke, whenever I go out, I do pull ups on the jungle gym.
Even as an ectomorph I've gained 20 pounds and gotten enough muscle that other people notice it. People will tell you to eat 6 meals a day, lift super heavy weights, etc, etc. It's bullshit OP. Eat when you're hungry, sleep when you're tired. Other then that, it's all about three P's. Patience, Preserverance, and Stop fucking procrastinating. As long as you do, keep doing it, and do more/harder as you go, any kind of workout will help you out. And go at your own pace, it's not a race, so don't get discouraged if someone outdoes you with less training.
