Is running 3 miles and doing 200 push ups a day a good plan? I just want to build my strength; not look good.

how is that going to build strength

I'm pushing up my own body weight, and running a fair distance.

you're not pushing your body weight unless your feet are off the ground

running does not build strength,

lift weights

That's like starting at 0. To answer your question, no, it's not good for building strength, but it's good for keeping the fatty demons away.'

The question for you: do you have access to a gym?

I don't really want to spend the money. Tbh, I'm actually noticing that my arms and legs are getting more muscular (if I flex, I can see more bulges than when I started).

3 miles/day and 200 push ups a day is good for staying in not-bad shape over the long term. It definitely won't push you to any limit and wouldn't be considered INTENSE, so most on /fit/ will flame you to hell for it and tell you your plan is useless. But it's better than nothing.

However, if the only reason you aren't just lifting weights is that you can't afford it, search the internet for ways to life on a budget. I've heard of guys building fucktons of muscle using sandbags and shit. I've been working out at my uni's gym (free for students), but when I graduate, I'll probably look into something like that myself.

Great information - thanks! I'll definitely look at buying some sandbags.
