hey /fit/. i'm a rock climber in need of some advice. i found this route i need to do but i need a whole mess of core stregth to do it. the problem is, as a rock climber, gaining weight (muscle) is the last thing i need.
is there a way to gain strength without gaining muscle? i'm already 140lbs and i don't wanna get any heavier than i have to be.

pic related, i'm the dude climbing.

Augh, sorry I have no suggestions, but do you have more pics of you climbing? Perfect muscle-drawing fodder.

yes repetition with less weight(what you want) as opposed to lots of weight with low reps (what you dont want). will build strength. so do exercises with lots of reps for strength.

I've heard of that but I though that only gets you better definition and not strength. I'll try it anyway.

Also, will cardio help?

It will allow you to do more repetitions of the climbing motion before getting tired, which i believe is the type of "strength" you're looking for, if you're thinking you can keep your same body weight but be able to lift and extra 45lb, then your looking to improve your technique apposed to gaining muscle.
