/fit/, I never been to a gym before. Although I cycle two hours a day, 152, and 5'5, my upper body is a mess excluding my broad shoulders that get people thinking that I go to the gym daily.

So today I decided to check out this gym that just opened called Premier Fitness. Got a quick tour of the place and seemed pretty nice.

However, as we talk, I was told I had to sign a year contract. Now I know some gyms do this as they know people will leave within a month or so because they don't see "results", but a year? Fuck man, that's 52 weeks and I do have an extremely busy schedule.

I even told the guy this that I don't see myself going here after a year yet he kept trying to pressure me. He said he would offer a discount, he even bought in one of the trainers to try to talk me into it. He know I wouldn't budge and I even told him that my job is just like his: selling goods and services, and I was onto him.

I told him I wasn't interested and I can tell he was pretty pissed off.

Are all gyms full of shit?

99% of gyms are, yes.

They aren't out to make the population look better, they are out to make a buck. They bank on the fact that you'll go for a few weeks, not see any results, never come back, but keep paying till the year is out. Even then it will be nigh on impossible to get out of the contract.

Try to find a local boxing gym or something. That's what I did, and I couldn't be happier. The people there know their shit, theres no fuckwits curling in the squat cages, no stupid fucking treadmills in front of tv's. Everyone there is more than willing to offer guidence or help out. Has worked wonders for me.

What if I want to take a month off? Or go on vacation?

Pay as you go or monthly and I would've signed up.
