/fit/, I've been dieting and eating right, doing cardio, and doing light lifting to keep muscle for almost 3 weeks now. I'm 6' 280ish. I started at 286, but if I check daily I've been up to 287 and down to 280 even. I do drink a fuckton of water.
So far today I've been up for 3 hours and had a 1/2 cup (uncooked 1/2 cup) of oatmeal and probably 3 or 4 big glasses of water. I'm 283 lbs right now.

I walk 1-4 miles every other day depending on how much time I have free. I've changed my diet and I do the light lifting. Is there any reason why I'm not seeing progress? Is it all the water I drink?

Walking? Calories burned in cardio centers around how high your heart rate is compared to max. HIIT those 1-4 miles.

And unless you're somehow not pissing, water doesnt cause you to gain weight.

And how is 7 pounds not progress? Stop expecting to lose 20 pounds in 3 weeks and you'll see your progress. Set realistic goals.

You ever tried to do HIIT at 280 lbs? I do go from 2.5 mph up to 5 for 30 secs to a minute on the treadmill, but that's about all I can do. I'm working on building up to be able to do HIIT when I get in better shape.

High intensity doesn't mean sprinting, it means getting your heart rate to 90% of it's maximum and sustaining it.

If a slow jog or biking gets your heart feeling like it's about to fail, that's HIIT. Do it.

I mean it goes up and down that much, I'm 283 right now, in the morning it could be 285, then the next day 280. That's how it's been the last 2 weeks.

define for us your idea of "dieting and eating right"

Breakfast is usually 1/2 c uncooked oatmeal with a fruit or 2 egg whites with fresh herbs and a 60 cal slice of cheddar cheese cooked like an omelet.

Lunch is a chicken breast tossed in a dash of liquid smoke and salt and pepper and olive oil so it doesn't stick to the grill. I make a bulk 6 pack and eat 1 a day the whole week. Also eat green beans or carrots with it.

Also do grilled fish, sometimes a pasta salad (pasta, carrots, green beans, spinach, salt, pepper, parsley flakes, ect, no mayo).

Supper I usually don't have much energy left to fix something. It might be a whole wheat hoagie roll with 1 60 cal slice of cheese, 5 slices of turkey breast, and 5 cals worth of a creamy mustard. Might eat left over pasta salad, sometimes I cheat when my mom cooks something but I don't pig out on it, it should be right around my needed calories to lose weight.

Anyone?

How many calories are you taking in every day, on average?
>> Anonymous

On days I stick to my diet 100%, probably around 2000. On days I cheat for dinner, 2500-2750 probably. I know less than 2000 probably isn't enough and is probably why I don't feel great, but I hate to eat more.

I calculated how many calories I need a day to lose 2 lbs a week and it's like 2400ish I think.

Do you have access to a gym? I would recommend exercising on an elliptical trainer. Doing so will burn far more calories than just walking alone, and it's easy on your knees (you shouldn't be running at your weight.)

When you say "light lifting" what do you mean exactly? What weights, how many reps, what specific exercises?

I don't right now, but I'm gonna be moving out in a few months and will. I would love to do an elliptical or stationary bike instead of the treadmill, it does kill my knees.

Light lifting is 3 sets of 6 reps lat pull down, chest press, leg extensions, and butterfly press at 75 lbs on a weight machine. I finish this in less than 20 minutes, and I'll probably up the weight another 12.5 lbs this week. I can't do the butterfly presses that high though, I back down on them.

I have the same problem as yours. I tried everything in the darn GYM, heavy weight lifting, super diet, etc......and almost nothing happened within a year. Until a friend suggestedto go check up to a doctor about it. And found out I seem to have some obesity problem... So the doctor gave me an anti-obesity medicine. I seem to lost 2-3kg within 3 weeks? without doing much.....

Well am still unsure of this though but do try to go to a doctor and have it check. I forgot what type of specialist this doctor was called...but it got something to do with hormonal imbalance.

I'll give that a try if it doesn't get better. I've been through a shitfuckton of blood tests in the last year, they checked hormones and shit and everything was fine but who knows if they checked the right one.

If you can find a bicycle for free or cheap that would be great exercise for you until you can get on an elliptical. It'll help strengthen your knees and get you ready to run when that time comes.

Are you lifting to failure? Because you should be. But make sure you give your body a day or two to rest and mend before you lift again.

I'll look at getting a stationary bike. I have no where to ride a regular bike at, I live on a winding country road that gets a TON of traffic on it.

I don't go until failure, how many reps should I be able to do before not being able to do another one? 5 or 6?

Endocrinologist?

Also, note that it takes more than 3 weeks to see good results. It takes 6 weeks to make something a habit, and it's likely you haven't been adhering 100% to what you're telling us.

It's generally agreed that 2lbs of FAT loss a week is healthy and a good target. Notice I said FAT loss. Stop looking at the fucking scale. Eat right, lift weights a bit harder, and continue to do cardio. Then, in 2 months, you'll notice how much better you feel, how much better you look, and you won't give 2 shits about the number on the scale.

TL;DR:
1. Gain muscle
2. Lose fat
3. ????
4. Profit

I'll stick with it then, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right. I haven't stuck with it 100%, but I don't think I've slipped over the edge enough for it to matter. If anything it's not walking long enough because of the impact of the treadmill.
