Hey /fit/,
I just want to let everyone know how great Accutane is. Dear god...For YEARS I have had trouble with acne. I tried all kinds of over the counter shit, dermatologist prescribed shit, spa shit, herbal hippie shit, and then I finally tried accutane. AFTER THE 3RD DAY I NOTICED CHANGES! MIRACLE PILL!
IF YOU HAVE ACNE, GOTO A DERMATOLOGIST, ASK FOR ACCUTANE IN SPECIFIC! 100% WORTH IT!

I think it has puts people into depression.

Not sure tho, read it on /fit/ somewhere.

very true. ive used roaccutane (isotretonin) twice, 6 months each course.

sure it works (at least while youre taking it >.>) but there are _loads_ of side effects. given the choice now i would definitely not take it.

They warn you about it, but I don't think it's ever been conclusively proved. It can fuck up your liver though, so you might need to occasionally give blood samples to check for... something I can't remember (blood fat levels?). And the mutant babies.

yeah my friend became suicidal and killed himself on accutane. he also had a pretty shit family life.
still. lovely stuff eh?

I dont think you have a friend. Enjoy your accutane induced death.

Enough of what a friend told you or what you heard. I took a 6 month course and only now are the side effects tapering off. I had to go to monthly blood test for the liver(you shouldn't drink heavy if at all on the drug). The depression factor i all hype. This effects about < 1 % of patients.

That being said it does WORK for clearing acne, something that cant be said of all shit they sell at the store or in infomercials. While there were some weird side effects like severely chapped lips and dry skin, it did its job. All it takes is a commitment.

After years of failskin I've been on accutane since march. 1 10mg pill per day. Acne completely disappeared in a matter of days and hasn't come back since.

Only side effects for me are dry lips.

Combined with creatine it became rather insane how much water I had to drink so I quit using creatine (haven't noticed a difference in performance anyway) and now drinking well even keeps my lips from drying up.

Enjoy your joints while you can.

you pulled the 1% depression statistic out of your ass.
your dermo made you do monthly liver checks? i am>>186546and both times i only needed a check initially and one at 3 months.

to anyone interested, accutane is a massive dose of vit a and that has the potential to fuck your liver hardcore, although most people should be fine. not drinking while on it is a load of steaming horse shit unless it is affecting your liver.

the second half of your post is all correct though.

You have no right to say this stuff isn't worth it unless you had acne and took it. Which I did. And its worth it completely.

No I was not depressed, I was overjoyed that my acne was clearing and I could enjoy a normal social life again. Deformed babies? Yes maybe if you take it while you're fucking pregnant you ignorant fuck. Friend killed himself eh? So you're the friend of the ONE case in which someone killed themselves while on accutane. You do know that it was completely unlinked right? They could have just killed themselves for some other reason.

The one side effect I had was dryness around my mouth and I only had to use moisturizer in the morning and night to keep that under control (which I do now anyway as part of my routine)

tl;dr Shut the fuck up about accutane's side effects if you've never been on it. Other than dryness other side effects are rare. You don't know shit.

I tried it for a while, nothing really happened...

I had to stop because it was putting pressure on my brain.

I took accutane 10 years ago. I absolutely loved the stuff. Other than the occasional single blemish, my face has been clear ever since, with no scaring.

It's a potent drug. I did get super depressed/emotional when I took it, and I had bloody noses, reduced night vision. It was still completely worth it. I even miss some of the side effects, it helped me exercise really hard. I've never quit exercising, but I don't know if I've ever pushed myself as hard as back then. Normal teen angst and High school lifestyle probably added to the effect.

I took accutane (they made me sign a waiver and gave me a big packet on side effects). I didn't even have amazingly bad acne, just some on my face and back that would not go away even with other pill/cream treatments.

It worked amazingly. The only side effects were REALLY dry lips and sometimes dry skin. I was actually quite worried that my lips would be like that forever. I had to just the powerful blistex all the time to prevent cracking and bleeding.

Other than that everything was fine. Blood tests every month or something always came out fine, and I never had any bad side effects. I actually felt better than when I was on minocycline pills (which were totally useless).

Oh and I forgot to say, it was totally worth it. 4 years later I only get the occasional pimple.

there is a large chance of hair loss on it aswell

in some cases the hair loss persists for months and sometimes years after the course has been finished

and it can vary from a general thinning of the hair to full blown bald spots

Oh, for those who are getting dry lips/side effects. If the dose you're on eliminates acne you can lower it to decrease side effects. It's not like antibiotics where the acne will become resistant.

For example if you take 1 10mg pill every day, try every other day instead for a few weeks. That might still keep your acne away, but with less severe side effects.

Well he obviously wouldn't now seeing as how the friend killed himself.

my friend took that stuff and went bald.

That doesn't make sense, in the first few weeks you get several months worth of acne. Once that goes away you don't get any thing else.

I wouldn't mind that, my head is always either shaved or =/> 1/4th of an inch. That would just mean less work.
