is it wise to stretch everyday?
I've heard it's smart to rest your body, but I'm wondering if stretching would be bad

Yes. It helps you by not tearing one of your muscles when you jog.

Stretching is important with any workout, but DO NOT statically STRETCH COLD MUSCLES!!

If you are EVER going to stretch, only do so after warming up first, and ALWAYS stretch after your workout (be it aerobic or strength). If you just want to stretch, do some light calisthenics for 5-10 minutes first to get the muscles warm.
