Vegetarians Anonymous
Vegetarians piss me off.

I'm going to make an argument in the same tree-hugger language that vegetarians use.

In this argument I will make one assumption: If you are vegetarian, you are so because you do not believe it is morally right to kill animals.

Everything we eat was once living. To assert that animals are more important than plants is absolutely ridiculous. Not only does that make you a discriminatory asshole, it makes you a hypocrite, because you are disrespecting life which you seek to respect by not eating. Plants are just as important as animals.

Animals are sentient, you say?
Fuck you. The reason animals are important isn't because they can think, they are inherently important because they are living. An animal's level of thinking isn't even worth importance, anyway, their 'thinking' is merely a reaction system made to keep them alive. Only human thinking(, or the thinking of an omniscient being, if you so believe, which you probably do, KUZ YOU'RE A FUCKING VEGETARIAN) is worth any level of respect and awe.

Plants are just as important as Animals, because they are both living organisms. The same way that animals may eat plants or other animals, plants eat animals or other plants.
Plants get energy from the sun which animals eat, then other animals eat those animals to get energy from them, animals die, they decompose into the soil, and more plants grow from the energy of the soil. If plants are manly enough to eat animals, then humans are too.

I'm not in any way saying that animals should be disrespected. I'm saying that all living things are to be equally respected and that all living things are equally important. Instead of assuming that you're a good person for not eating that animal which ate plants which ate decomposed animals and plants, etc. etc. etc., try appreciating animals by: 1. Eating them, and 2. respecting and appreciating them, as well as the plants you eat, for giving you energy to live your life.

Also, plants don't feel pain.

Also, I am not endorsing this, but many vegetarians claim that not eating meat is better for the environment because of the methods used in raising livestock etc.

well, they don't react by screaming, but I think they secrete something differently when damaged. To me it's like levels of life. plants at the lower end, animals in the middle, humans at the top. "To put the energy-using demand of meat production into easy-to-understand terms, Gidon Eshel, a geophysicist at the Bard Center, and Pamela A. Martin, an assistant professor of geophysics at the University of Chicago, calculated that if Americans were to reduce meat consumption by just 20 percent it would be as if we all switched from a standard sedan — a Camry, say — to the ultra-efficient Prius. Similarly, a study last year by the National Institute of Livestock and Grassland Science in Japan estimated that 2.2 pounds of beef is responsible for the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide emitted by the average European car every 155 miles, and burns enough energy to light a 100-watt bulb for nearly 20 days. Grain, meat and even energy are roped together in a way that could have dire results. More meat means a corresponding increase in demand for feed, especially corn and soy, which some experts say will contribute to higher prices."

Sauce please.

My philosophy is becoming one against the meat industry, not because I'm against eating meat, but because I'm against how dangerously removed we are from our food. If we lived in a society without slaughterhouses and the only way to get meat was to go outside with a spear and catch a buffalo, I'd be 110% for it.

Instead the only time we see the meat we eat is when it's been dead for days (if not weeks) shipped from some assembly line and ground up or wrapped in plastic. This is what's disturbing to me.

That's the biggest thing that gets me about vegetarians. They are hypocrites. They pretend to be so moral and just, yet they don't value the most important group of animals to them. Other people. First and foremost they should value PEOPLE. If not they are fools. We are the kindest animals on the planet, and we are the only animals they can have a truly deep connection with.

Why is it always meat eaters that start the arguments? Why do you feel threatened by our way of life? What possible reason could you have to hate vegetarianism itself? That's PETA trying whatever they can do get people to stop eating meat. I'm against that, because I see it as an attempt to convert people not through logic, but through shock and horror tactics. That kind of "argument" not only makes them (meaning PETA) look psychotic and therefore strengthen the case against what they stand for, but it's not going to work on anyone with any kind of grip over their base emotions.

Uh, yes, we are animals. We are humans as well. Denying that you're an animal is the same thing as denying your humanity. Striving to be something you cannot be is inherently dishonest. Half-baked philosophies like this are so strikingly similar to the thought processes in religion that its extremely scary. Vegetarians need to first and foremost dedicate their time to protecting other people, being kinder and better, and more helpful to other people before they worry about other animals. We are the most important creatures to them, and they should care about us more deeply than any other beast.

>The potential of humanity is truly limitless.
The last question was asked for the first time, half in jest, on May 21, 2061, at a time when humanity first stepped into the light. The question came about as a result of a five dollar bet over highballs, and it happened this way:

Alexander Adell and Bertram Lupov were two of the faithful attendants of Multivac. As well as any human beings could, they knew what lay behind the cold, clicking, flashing face -- miles and miles of face -- of that giant computer. They had at least a vague notion of the general plan of relays and circuits that had long since grown past the point where any single human could possibly have a firm grasp of the whole.

Multivac was self-adjusting and self-correcting. It had to be, for nothing human could adjust and correct it quickly enough or even adequately enough -- so Adell and Lupov attended the monstrous giant only lightly and superficially, yet as well as any men could. They fed it data, adjusted questions to its needs and translated the answers that were issued. Certainly they, and all others like them, were fully entitled to share In the glory that was Multivac's.
>> Anonymous
>>268849
Bullshit. Human potential is very limited. Do you enjoy blurting out saccharine nonsense? It's 2008 already, and I don't even have a car that can hover in the air. I've been fucking lied to by you futurists way too long.

For decades, Multivac had helped design the ships and plot the trajectories that enabled man to reach the Moon, Mars, and Venus, but past that, Earth's poor resources could not support the ships. Too much energy was needed for the long trips. Earth exploited its coal and uranium with increasing efficiency, but there was only so much of both.

But slowly Multivac learned enough to answer deeper questions more fundamentally, and on May 14, 2061, what had been theory, became fact.

The energy of the sun was stored, converted, and utilized directly on a planet-wide scale. All Earth turned off its burning coal, its fissioning uranium, and flipped the switch that connected all of it to a small station, one mile in diameter, circling the Earth at half the distance of the Moon. All Earth ran by invisible beams of sunpower.

Seven days had not sufficed to dim the glory of it and Adell and Lupov finally managed to escape from the public function, and to meet in quiet where no one would think of looking for them, in the deserted underground chambers, where portions of the mighty buried body of Multivac showed. Unattended, idling, sorting data with contented lazy clickings, Multivac, too, had earned its vacation and the boys appreciated that. They had no intention, originally, of disturbing it.

They had brought a bottle with them, and their only concern at the moment was to relax in the company of each other and the bottle.

"It's amazing when you think of it," said Adell. His broad face had lines of weariness in it, and he stirred his drink slowly with a glass rod, watching the cubes of ice slur clumsily about. "All the energy we can possibly ever use for free. Enough energy, if we wanted to draw on it, to melt all Earth into a big drop of impure liquid iron, and still never miss the energy so used. All the energy we could ever use, forever and forever and forever."

Lupov cocked his head sideways. He had a trick of doing that when he wanted to be contrary, and he wanted to be contrary now, partly because he had had to carry the ice and glassware. "Not forever," he said.

"Oh, hell, just about forever. Till the sun runs down, Bert."

"That's not forever."

"All right, then. Billions and billions of years. Twenty billion, maybe. Are you satisfied?"

Lupov put his fingers through his thinning hair as though to reassure himself that some was still left and sipped gently at his own drink. "Twenty billion years isn't forever."

"Will, it will last our time, won't it?"

"So would the coal and uranium."

"All right, but now we can hook up each individual spaceship to the Solar Station, and it can go to Pluto and back a million times without ever worrying about fuel. You can't do THAT on coal and uranium. Ask Multivac, if you don't believe me."

"I don't have to ask Multivac. I know that."

"Then stop running down what Multivac's done for us," said Adell, blazing up. "It did all right."

"Who says it didn't? What I say is that a sun won't last forever. That's all I'm saying. We're safe for twenty billion years, but then what?" Lupov pointed a slightly shaky finger at the other. "And don't say we'll switch to another sun."

There was silence for a while. Adell put his glass to his lips only occasionally, and Lupov's eyes slowly closed. They rested.

Then Lupov's eyes snapped open. "You're thinking we'll switch to another sun when ours is done, aren't you?"

"I'm not thinking."

"Sure you are. You're weak on logic, that's the trouble with you. You're like the guy in the story who was caught in a sudden shower and Who ran to a grove of trees and got under one. He wasn't worried, you see, because he figured when one tree got wet through, he would just get under another one."

"I get it," said Adell. "Don't shout. When the sun is done, the other stars will be gone, too."
>> http://www.multivax.com/last_question.html Anonymous
>>268868
"Darn right they will," muttered Lupov. "It all had a beginning in the original cosmic explosion, whatever that was, and it'll all have an end when all the stars run down. Some run down faster than others. Hell, the giants won't last a hundred million years. The sun will last twenty billion years and maybe the dwarfs will last a hundred billion for all the good they are. But just give us a trillion years and everything will be dark. Entropy has to increase to maximum, that's all."

"I know all about entropy," said Adell, standing on his dignity.

"The hell you do."

"I know as much as you do."

"Then you know everything's got to run down someday."

"All right. Who says they won't?"

"You did, you poor sap. You said we had all the energy we needed, forever. You said 'forever.'"

"It was Adell's turn to be contrary. "Maybe we can build things up again someday," he said.

"Never."

"Why not? Someday."

"Never."

"Ask Multivac."

False.
Every year we stray farther away from the principles of Darwinism. Through advancements in technology and the "civilization" of the earth (removal of predators and ourselves from predatory or dangerous environments) the weak, the malformed, the handicapped, the otherwise fatally injured or crippled are preserved and allowed to reproduce. In a truly Darwinian environment they would have died, while those with superior evolutionary traits would be the ones to survive.
I'm not debating whether this is good or bad, but to say we are ruled by Darwinism in this age is simply untrue.
>> http://www.multivax.com/last_question.html KEEP READING FAGGOTS
>>268871
"You ask Multivac. I dare you. Five dollars says it can't be done."

"Adell was just drunk enough to try, just sober enough to be able to phrase the necessary symbols and operations into a question which, in words, might have corresponded to this: Will mankind one day without the net expenditure of energy be able to restore the sun to its full youthfulness even after it had died of old age?

Or maybe it could be put more simply like this: How can the net amount of entropy of the universe be massively decreased?

Multivac fell dead and silent. The slow flashing of lights ceased, the distant sounds of clicking relays ended.

Then, just as the frightened technicians felt they could hold their breath no longer, there was a sudden springing to life of the teletype attached to that portion of Multivac. Five words were printed: INSUFFICIENT DATA FOR MEANINGFUL ANSWER.

"No bet," whispered Lupov. They left hurriedly.

By next morning, the two, plagued with throbbing head and cottony mouth, had forgotten about the incident.

No, you dumbass. What is Darwinism? Do you even know? It's the natural selection of the most fit for a specific environment. If the environment changes, so what is "most fit" also changes, but darwinism continues. There are still people not reproducing, in fact all of Western society appears to be failing the test of Darwinism, which means there is still a selection process going on.

The scary thing is that we seem to be selecting for stupid people these days, by granting welfare to those not capable of steady work: thus they breed, while successful people are too busy with careers.

Darwinism still hums along beneath the radar, selecting for qualities that may not seem obvious at first. We humans by no means control our own destinies as a society.

True, but we also degrade each other to make ourselves feel better, intentionally cause emotional damage out of spite or bitterness, torture, discriminate against and treat poorly those who don't look or act like us, wage unnecessary wars, steal from and attack those who are unable to defend themselves. We kill each other wholesale, and a lot of the time we enjoy if not encourage it. We ignore those who suffer if helping them is inconvenient unless their discomfort directly affects or harms us. We cheat on our husbands, sleep with other people's wives. We waste thousands to millions of dollars on status symbols while other people can't afford a single meal or a roof over their heads.
I'm not trying to be cynical, and I'm certainly not absolving myself of any guilt but to claim that mankind is all about kindness is turning a blind eye to the other side of the coin. Very few of those things you'll see other species guilty of.

We don't have control. We change our environment, yes, but not how we would if we socially planned everything.

Believe it or not, but the lame and the diseased are still not reproducing very much, unless you know girls with spina bifoda that get tons of dates. Even short guys are probably slowly being selected out. Only 80% of women are having babies by the time they are forty years old. Even fewer men. Since not everyone is reproducing--in fact childlessness is at an record high in the Western world--a selection of *some* sort is happening with a bias to some quality or another. The fact that you can't even articulate what particular bias is happening shows we aren't in control.

Serious?
>> Anonymous
I'm a vegetarian, and I couldn't give less of a shit about animals and the "pain" they go through.

I just don't eat them. No idea why.
>> Anonymous
I am a vegan.

I think it's fine that you eat meat, in fact I cook it in resturants.

I'm vegan because I can live healthly off the diet and reduce how tiny amount of suffering of a few animals. That's enough for me and it doesn't effect you.

But I do buy some dairy products from local farmers who I'm friends with.

for every animal you don't eat i'll eat three. also, I choose to exercise my status as an apex predator, and as such I will not succumb to becoming a herd animal, fit only for the usage of my meat. We didn't crawl our way out of the muck in order to eat with the lowest animals of creation.

Quoting Maddox makes you cool ITT
Also, you are as much a herd animal as any other. You think that ordering a steak makes you an "apex predator?" Do you go out, hunt and kill your meat in the wild? You are not a predator, not in the least.

Vegetarians I'm cool with, but vegans are the dregs of society.

I ate a ham and egg sandwich for breakfast, and I weight 157lbs at 5'7". I also have a girlfriend and my father is black. Not skinny, not pale, not vegan, and not queer (though for you I might make an exception ;) )
Any more irrelevant accusations?
>> Anonymous
>>269612
yes, actually, I do. other than going on 4chon, college, surfing, and lifting, i shoot things. like animals. with my bow or my remington. and eat them. so yes, I can and do exercise my status as an apex predator. also, baw b/c maddox could suck my nuts, it halps make a point though that any sort of vegetarianism is an exercise in futility. a lot of people are omnivorous by nature, carnivorous by choice.

tl;dr enjoy denying your nature and straight up failing at life, faggot.

>>269716

Now that we know you're black, that just means you're an inferior breed of human.
>> Anonymous
>>269727
Well only half, so that makes me only half inferior right? I mean, I still have hop, right?
>>269726
How was I suppose to know that? Assuming you actually go out and aren't shooting proverbial fish in a barrel.
Also, once again, I eat meat. I'm not a vegetarian. Denying my nature? I'm the one advocating going out in the wild and hunting buffalo with spears. I say go as far back to nature as possible.

Heh, if everyone switched to a vegetarian diet you would harm the environment, and even more animals. How you ask? It takes land to grow crops. We have problems with room as how things are now.

If everyone were to eat no meat, then we would have to destroy more land to plant our crops. I dont know if any of you payed attention in school, but farming isn't exactly nice to the land. The whole of central USA use to be great farming land, and now a lot of it is lifeless dust, unsuitable for growing plants.

It destroys the land to farm it over, and over. We destroy natural streams and rivers to divert water to our crops, and pollute the land as the water runs down the fields. The soil is sucked dry of nutrients over time. The machinery we use to harvest crops kill animals, and pollute the air. Those machines also use a shit ton of oil.

We infringe on the natural habitats of animals as we expand our farm land, and cut down forests to make room.

There is no simple answer to this. Both meat harvesting and farming has a great negative impact on the environment. You can claim that being vegetarian is environmentally friendly all you want, but it wont change the fact it's n ot.

Vegetarian btw. Eat me.

ignorant.
cows require way more land/water than most plants do, compare soybeans and cows.
>> fashion diva !3wJfpCMhKc
>>270249
dude, you are retarded
it takes upwards of 10 times the land to provide for a meat eater than it does for a vegetarian

in fact, there isn't nearly enough land on earth for everyone to have the meat eating habits of americans
>> Anonymous
>>270249
Your reasoning is specious. And wrong.
>> Anonymous
You veggieburgers really are asking for another smack down like last night. I had to fucking lay down the law on you queer faggots.
>> Anonymous
>>270253

I never said they didn't, but if everyone in the fucking country switch to being a vegetarian you would be experiencing a lot of problems. Read my fucking post and look where I said anything about meat not polluting as much or more. I didn't. I said farming all those crops would be destructive as well.

It's retarded to demand everyone switch to being vegetarians when you people know damn well we wouldn't be able to keep up with the demand unless we destroy a whole lot more land to make room for our crops.

You want to protect animals, but we would be hurting them by giving them no where to live because we're using every inch of land, that's not currently inhabited by humans, to farm our food.

Also, to the other post, im a veggie because I dont like the taste of meat. I have no problem with others eating meat.

In closing, I DID NOT SAY HARVESTING MEAT DID NOT POLLUTE, OR POLLUTED LESS THAN FARMING FOR CROPS. I AM POINTING OUT THAT INCREASING THE DEMAND FOR VEGETABLES WOULD HAVE A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT, NEGATING RETARD VEGETARIANS CLAIM IT WOULD BE FRIENDLIER ON THE ENVIRONMENT.

Caps for the idiots who like to misread my posts.
>> fashion diva !3wJfpCMhKc
>>270278
you are a retard
meat eaters need 3-1/4 acres to provide for them, a vegetarian needs only 1/6 of an acre

Why are you spouting this shit when you have no idea about the facts?

oh, and so you know, we feed cattle soy (among other things). You see, we have to use land to feed cows - most of that energy goes towards nothing more than the mere existence of the cow (i.e. it is wasted). If people just ate that shit instead of the cows, a lot less land would be needed

I'm a meat eater btw, I just hate it when people spout totally false shit

WOULD YOU LIKE SOME CARBON CREDITS WITH YOUR BURGER?

once we can grow and clone meat without even having to go through the animal, vegetarians will have nothing to bitch about.

I'm not a vegetarian, but what a terrible argument. Animals experience pain and vegetarians empathize with them. You'd be batshit insane to empathize with a plant.
