Substituting tea for water, y/n.

eh.

If you drank only tea and no water you can give yourself kidney stones, but having 3 or 4 cups of tea a day is fine.

Though be mindful of your sugar content.

no. try to drink an extra cup of water for every cup of tea, since most tea has caffiene and caffiene is a diuretic

Tea only has a little bit of caffeine, usuallly 40mg per cup for black, 30mg for green and 20mg for white. Those are small amounts, and caffeine is a pretty weak diuretic in the first place.

Pic related.

i've heard closer to like, 80mg for black. i guess it depends on how you make the tea?

It's nowhere near that. That's the smae amount of caffeine per volume as coffee and most energy drinks. Black tea, which has the most caffeine of any type of tea, has about half the caffeine of coffee.

Tea, yay!

Tea does contain more caf. than coffee, if you compare dry forms. However, brewed tea contains much less than brewed coffee.

As for how much, depends on what type and grade of tea. Here are the basics:

1) Store-bought prepared bottled/powered tea:
This stuff is crap, and has no valuable content whatsoever. Read the label, its mostly just tea-colored water with a ton of sugar/corn syrup/sweetener. I've yet to see a store-tea with any non-junk in it. Your almost better off just drinking soda. Stuff is bottled crap, plain and simple - they just hope your gonna bite into the hype and the label.

2) Black Teas:
Most common type. Your 'typical' tea is black (Lipton, PG tips, ect) This contains the most caf, though it is less than coffee.

3) Green teas:
Next least amount of caf. Green tea is the typical standard tea (Black tea came about as a way to keep tea from spoiling through oxidation) Much less caf, much less processed overall. While green tea is the tea every company seems to be the basis of every companies "Tea is the miracle key to weight loss!" advertising program, the truth is that -all- teas have the same exact compounds and give the same results - you can just charge more for 'green' tea cause, well, it has to be special! (amirite?) If your brewing it yourself, do not use boiling water - it will destroy the taste, and leave you with a bitter cup of nasty. 180F is much better. You can also 'rebrew' green tea at least twice, some types even more.

4) White teas
Least amount of caf. in a standard tea - also, a much lighter taste. Again, no boiling water, white tea is delicate. 180F, and getting 3 to 4+ cups from approx 1Tsp of leaves is pretty common. Most of the Whites make awesome ices teas too - brew double strength, pour into a glass full of ice, instant iced tea.

5) Tinctures:
Also know as 'herbals' most are caf. free, woo! They are not real teas, since theres no tea in them at all. Roobois is a popular standard, as well as mints, chamomile, rose hip, ect.

Yeah, there are other tea types (Oolongs, Pu-eh, ect) but if you have those lying around, you prolly know what to do with them. Also, teabags suck. The stuff in those is the lowest possible junk they can pawn off on you. Its like a power bodybuilder using whey powder thats 95% sawdust and complaining that it taste horrible, and isn't helping him anymore than not taking it. Good tea is cheap (decent stuff for about a penny or two a cup, not counting rebrews) and is worth the miniscule cost.

As a final note, if you plan on drinking a lot of tea, the lighter the tea the better (whites/herbals best, blacks worst) and be aware that drinking tea can strip your body of iron, though this should only be a problem if your drinking tons of it, or normally have low iron. Rule of thumb: if you suddenly feel the urge to eat something to 'balance' out your stomache, you prolly drank too much in too short a time.
