While of course what/how much you eat directly affects your weight, genetics also plays a role. Genes influence your natural metabolism as well as your appetite and the distribution of fat on your body.
That being said, just because obesity runs in your family certainly does not mean you are doomed to be fat. You are probably eating more than you realize and overestimating how much you exercise. I suggest you actually try counting calories, and increasing the amount of exercise you do everyday.
