Was just watching tv /fit/ and saw some commercial about how HFCS is the same as sugar. Not any worse, not any better? What the fuck, I've ALWAYS heard HFCS is shit awful for you? What are the real facts?

Here is the site that the commercial tells you to go to. http://sweetsurprise.com/

It has ALWAYS been the same as sugar.
There has yet to be any conclusive study that sugar in par with HFSC in moderation, will not do anymore damage to you than the regular "natural" sugar.

Sucrose = table sugar. Not the same as fructose. A lot of fructose causes a buildup of glyceraldehyde in the liver, which may or may not be a good thing to have a lot of.

Is that picture supposed to resemble a lonely guy or girl looking at a happy couple holding hands? Because it does.

OK. Someone please explain to me the difference between these things:

HFCS-55 is composed of 55% fructose, 42% glucose and 3% higher sugars.

A typical honey might contain 38% fructose 31% glucose 7% maltose 2% sucrose, 4% other sugars including isomaltose, maltulose, turanose, kojibiose, erlose, theanderose and panose, and 17% water. Another 0.5% is made up of proteins, amino acids, vitamins and minerals.

Sugar is sucrose, a disaccharide of 50% fructose and 50% glucose linked by a chemical bond. (C12H22O11)

Nothing has ever been bad for you in moderation. The beef with HFCS is not the substance itself, it's that it is "cheap" in terms of calories. It's everywhere, in almost every product these days. The problem is that the food industry makes it VERY hard to avoid an overconsumption of HFCS.

I see HFCS as an ingredient in the soy vegetable burgers I eat. You'd think that would be one of the last places you'd find it.

But, yeah, the real issue is that they put too much of it into single products and then consumers use those products too much. Look at soda. Two cans of soda and you're almost at 500 calories already...and it's just liquid.

HFCS is fine in moderation, just like anything (except trans fats).

I do. I just like the taste of veggie burgers as well, especially Boca tomato pesto burgers. They taste like pizzas with 1 gram of fat and only 70 calories.

THIS.

HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP IS MADE OF THE EXACT SAME STUFF TABLE SUGAR IS MADE OF. FRUCTOSE AND GLUCOSE. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS A 5% VARIATION IN THE RATIO. THAT'S IT; 5% MORE FRUCTOSE IN HFCS. ASIDE FROM THAT, IT'S CHEMICALLY IDENTICAL TO TABLE SUGAR

IT WILL NOT RUIN YOUR LIVER, MAKE YOU OBESE, OR ANY OF THE OTHER SHIT PEOPLE CLAIM IT WILL DO ANY MORE THAN SUGAR WILL.

IT IS BAD FOR YOU IN THE EXACT SAME WAY SUGAR IS BAD FOR YOU (BECAUSE THEY'RE ALMOST THE EXACT SAME THING): IF YOU EAT A FUCKLOAD OF IT, YOU GET FAT.

THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT, KIDS.

THIS EXACT THREAD WAS POSTED YESTERDAY

That's not what I meant. I was talking about
fructose
glucose
higher sugars
maltose
sucrose
etc.

Here goes some really basic o-chem.

There are four chemical groupings of carbohydrates (also known as saccharides).

Glucose and fructose are monosaccharides. A monosaccharide is a single sugar, the simplest carbohydrate. There are a bunch of other monosaccharides, but they don't matter right now.

Sucrose (table sugar), and maltose are disaccharides (again, there are more than those two but they don't matter right now). A disaccharide is a combination of two monosaccharides in a single sugar molecule; in the case of sucrose you have fructose and glucose. Disaccharides make up the second grouping of carbohydrates.

Next you have oligosaccharides, which are chains of anywhere from three to ten monosaccharides, and then you have polysaccharides, which are basically anything bigger than that.

>"cheap" in terms of calories
as in has just cals and lacks all the other micronutrients. just cals ain't adequate. cals is shit. cals alone will make you fat. like in pop. pizza pckts. tv dinners. They just spray on 4 of the 32 the body needs daily.

but the calories of fruit, vegetables, real natural food come with the best micronutrients in the world. nothing artificially sprayed on can compare to the quality that natural nutrients provide.

Empty calories indeed.
