hi /fit/.

so i'm on a hardgain program right now to make weight for entrance into the military (potentially in b4 faggotry), and to this end, i'm trying to down three 8 oz glasses of milk mixed with weight gain supplement every day - one with every meal. only problem is that this shit is god-awful disgusting. makes me want to yuke every single time (or maybe it's because i down them in one gulp usually). does anyone have any alternate preparations that make this shit less repulsive?

any input at all is helpful. and pic unrelated (but cool).

Here again. Remember these will help you past the basic screening tests but how well you hack it is all mental.

One last thing: Don't practice those stupid ruck runs. Many OPERATOR OPERATOR OPERATOR dreams have been crushed when overenthusiastic wannabes have gone for daily ruck runs as practice and ruined their knees. You'll get plenty of ruck training when you haul ass as a grunt.

i'm slotted for straight 11B at the moment, but i do want to eventually do some sort of OPERATOR work. it all depends on how hooah i'm feeling when reenlistment comes along though.

i'm not too worried about basic, TBH, i already exceed basic army PT levels, it's just the goddamn anal doctors at MEPS who i have to please.

Can you ease yourself into ruck runs?
Slowly build up knee strength?

protien makes you fat if you don't excercize? no? protien is just shit for muscle building, fat is stored energy, what the hell does protien have to do with fat

Basic screening tests are shit. Keep working.

I have my own issues with MEPS, I've been aiming for some OPERATOR work myself by using the DEP to take my shot at BUD/S but I've had knee and elbow problems in the past and I've got some nasty scars on my body.

It's good to see you're taking the 11B route rather than swiping up an 18X option that would bring you straight to the Q Course. It's a route that has fooled many other wannabes. Good luck in future endeavours. Remember: blood and sweat help the grass grow.

No need. Especially since you're going 11B. You will hump for miles and get used to it.

In the beginning you'll curse me for telling you not to train for them. But the older guys with creaking knees will curse themselves for training for them.

Just make sure your cardio is in good shape. Do some research on how the ruck is strapped onto the soldier and what muscles it will work while strapped on. Then work those muscles.

i can't seem to find a straight answer on this anywhere on the web, but how much do the rucks generally weigh? what i commonly hear is that full battle gear (ruck, ceramics, weapon, etc) weighs 100+ pounds. will they strap 100 lbs on my green ass and tell me to hit the hills or will i have an ease-in period?

Boot Camp should have some ruck practice. I guess you can call that your ease-in period.

I'm not sure how much the total weight is in combat but i know the Q Course runs it's training at 55 lbs dry and omfg d3lta runs it's course at 65 lbs. I can only assume that basic Infantry training will have you guys haul a much lighter ruck.. I'll take a random stab and say 40lbs.

okay, thanks.

in my youth i wasn't exactly a paragon of good behavior and landed myself in a wilderness program in which i marched ~7 miles a day with around 60 pounds on my back. it's been a while since i did an old-fashioned long-distance leg, but knowing the rucks will be that pathetically light in basic, i should be good.

thanks again for the information. HOOAH.

I plan to enlist as well, though right now I'm working full time to get laser eye so I can join completely ready. (Plus it invests more time in my trade skill, so I have something to fall back on when I eventually get out). Now, moving on.

Don't bother with Weight Gainer, it's not worth the effort. The weight will come, the weight will come. Go with milk instead. The important thing is just keeping on the getting fit road. You might meet the requirements, but you wanna score as highly as possible, and when you join, you'll be working twice as hard. Remember, this is a job where your life depends on your fitness level. Plus, with OPERATOR OPERATOR stuff, it's always a lot more work then you think. The minimum is the minimum, meaning you should be able to shit it out inbetween real exercise.

As you start to put on some real muscle (As in, it becomes noticeable), it also becomes a lot easier to gain fat weight. Infact, it'll come almost naturally that you notice you've got some "Thickness" along with the muscle growth.

As for ruck shit, I talked to a lot of veterans before I made up my mind, and the general consensus is not to worry about it. There's not too much you can do to prepare, and they're working on the assumption that you haven't.
