Diet soda or no soda? Anonymous
Question, /fit/.

I'm trying to lose weight, and part of the restructuring of my diet has been switching from regular soda to diet. I've been told by some this makes a big difference, and from others that it doesn't make any difference. Which is true?

Keep in mind I drink quite a bit of it (diet soda). Part of my weight problem has been drinking regular soda constantly. Does the amount have a big influence?

makes a big difference.

just drink a gallon of water a day in addition to the diet coke.

Classed as a clinical poison. Stop drinking it. The chemicals wreak havoc on your inside and fuck up your metabolism, and that shit doesn't even taste good.

3L+ of water a day.

There are about 100 calories in a can of coke or pepsi. The little vending machine bottles are twice as big. Do the math. And don't be fooled by thinking juices or gatorade have any less calories just because they're not fizzy colas, always glance at the label.

Then realize that while diet sodas will help you cut calories and lose weight, they also have their own issues. Best is to eventually replace all soda with water. Start by only drinking soda at specific times like with food during actual meals, and using water if you're just sipping or snacking the rest of the time.

The great thing is that your body will adjust, so even if water isn't delicious to you now (most soda drinkers seem to think so) that will rapidly change once you get used to it.

Cut any sugar syrup poison out of your diet permanently, you wont even miss it after 1 month.

What kind of diet soda cans are you drinking? I just checked on mine and it had a whooping 0,1 calories per 100 ml. A glass is what, 200 ml at best?

These are the contents of non-brand diet cola drink (I don't buy Coke/Coca-Cola): Carbonated water, Caramel Colorant class IV, citric acid, Aspartame, Acesulfame K, and Caffeine.

If this is clinical poison, drinking coffee with saccharine is gonna kill you good. Anything I'm drinking when I drink a glass of this particular coke (IDK about coca-cola in particular) is as safe as table sweetener. As with everything, if you drink it with moderation these evil chemicals are not gonna melt you inside.

And by the way, bottled water is more than likely just tap water, there's no regulation against bottling tap water, in literally no country in the world. So what you're spending money on is just the same shit-filled, "purified" with chemicals such as OH FUCK BLEACH, water you get when you open your tap.

Everything in moderation. An occasional soda, diet or not, isn't going to kill you/make you fat. The problem comes when either it's all you drink, you drink too many, or you aren't eating a good diet.

If you're trying to lose weight, I'd lay off and stick to water or at least drinks with lots of nutrients (juice, milk).

Why the fuck are you even drinking soda if you want to lose weight? "Diet" is just put there to make dumb bitches feel better about drinking it. Just drink water you gullible man.

DRINK IT!!

fuck all these /fit/ fags who are going for pure muscle and 3% body fat. I drink abuot 4-6 diet sodas a day (all zero calories, some with sodium, some with zero sodium). All I do is walk 4 miles a day (about and hour on the treadmill, and sometimes a half hour on the elliptical). I have lost 44 pounds since july 1st by sticking to a 2000 calorie per day diet, with mucho diet sodas. fuck these fags theres nothing wrong with diet soda, just stick to a strict diet of 2k calories per day max, with a cheat day every 2 weeks or so.

Mountain Dew has a diet zero calorie soda thats hard to find in cans (Kmart is the only place i know that has the cans) but the 2 liters are everywhere.

Diet Rite is available at walmart and is zero cals zero sodium, available in rasberry, cola, and orange soda

Mug Rootbeer has a zero calorie version
Full throttle has a 5 calorie per serving 10 calorie total per can energy drink.
Hansen's has a line of sodas that are calorie free including Tangerine&Lime also rootbeer and a few others.

Target/Safeway/Kmart/WalMart all have a "Sparkling Water" that is basically soda and is zero calories in flavors like peach, strawberry, mixed berry, tangerine and lime.

Drink up!

Why the fuck would you drink diet soda? Are you really that mentally weak that you can't give up some shitty carbonated water with sugar in it?

Diet soda tastes like ass anyway, yuck.

just shut up, soda isn't good for anyone. sure you can drink it but say good bye to your bone density and hello to arthritis and broken bones the rest of your life. not to mention the terrible insulin spikes you get with regular soda, and the fact that diet soda makes you retain weight due to the liver not being able to process the fake sweeteners.

read this article on diet soda, i already posted it but apparently you are too lazy

Why the fuck would you NOT drink soda? Are you really that much of a fat fuck that you'd give up some delicious carbonated water with sugar in it just to lose a few pounds instead of exercising so that you can enjoy said drink without being any more of a FAT FUCK that you are now?

Soda is one of the wonderful things in life, like wine and cheese and good chocolate and chewing gum.

I always drink diet soda and it tastes great, if you know what to get. But if the liver problems are true, I'll stop. As for now, I don't drink it like water and don't keep it in the house. It's for a special treat.

OK, these other post don't get the idea behind why you are switching to diet coke.

IF you are replacing the calories from normal coke with diet coke you will lose weight (average soda drinker drinks an extra 30lbs of calories a year). That could be an extra 30lbs of wieght loss just from switching.

That said, soda in general is not good for you. If you are use to drinking just soda try rotating in tea or some other non-soda carbonated drink for long term health.

Couple of tips:
DON'T use the diet soda as an excuse to eat more. That defeats the whole point.
Put ICE in the soda. Cold drinks don't have a strong taste and are easier to drink (Think crappy beer. It taste better cold).

I was referring to non-diet sodas. Did you even read the OP?

I drink diet soda all the time. I like the flavor and I find it easier to stick to my diet when I can drink something of flavor outside of water. It's just more exciting to me. I've lost 50-60lbs since January without cutting diet soda and I'm fine. In fact, the past week I've tried to switch to just water in an attempt to save money and... yeah. Boring.

It won't kill you. It has sodium and fake sugar. Drink the shit out of it and lose weight. I mean, the chemicals aren't healthy. I eat mostly organic and I know I defeat the purpose by consuming some "caramel color" and shit, but I have never had any adverse effects from drinking diet soda, and it's definately not affected my weight loss.

It does make a shit tonne of difference, I was 330Ibs, and I used to drink around 4 litres of coke per day, which amounts to over 1600 calories per day, JUST FOR FUCKING DRINK. So I switched to diet.

That was around 3 months ago, all I've done other than that is cut my daily calorie intake to 2000 per day, now I'm down to 280Ibs.

SO yeah, cut that shit depending on how much of it you drink, it can make a shit fuck tonne of difference.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as OP. I'm only drinking diet soda and weight loss is going swimmingly because obviously, there's barely any calories at all in the diet soda, so that's pretty sweet.

This being said, however, diet soda isn't good for you, even though it probably won't affect your fat loss any, it's unhealthy in oh so many other ways. Personally i'm trying to quit with the diet soda, but i'm having a hard time doing so. Particularly because ever since I switched my diet around I'm now eating so much healthy stuff (which is very unsatisfying in comparison to the shit I was eating before) I feel like my diet soda is the only shit that still tastes good.

Trying to lay off it though.

TL;DR:
It won't fuck up your weightloss, but you should quit anyway.
