Lose Weight or Gain Muscle? Anonymous
I'm not exactly fat, but not quite skinny. If you were to look at me with clothes on you would think I was about average but with my shirt off you can see I have a bit of a "beer belly"

I used to be skinny and have a naturally slim frame.. Basically what I want to know is would I better trying to lose the beer belly and go back to being skinny or would I be better trying to convert my fat into muscle?

Eh...Well first off, Fat can never turn into muscle and vice versa. They are made from two completely different organic materials.

Secondly, you must clearly define a goal you wish to follow. Losing weight and gaining muscular mass is quite hard, actually extremely hard to do yourself even with a great, spot-on diet.

Work on one thing, not the other.

that's the problem. I don't know which one to go for.

I do know that I'm a lazy cunt and if it is far too hard I'll likely end up giving up, so I need to know which one would be easiest to do.

Both require the same amount of dedication my friend. You have to want it. If not, then hope is lost.

If you're lazy, you won't get either of them done anyways.

but I do want it, if I could have a proper goal in mind I could probably do it, it's only because I don't have a proper goal at the moment that I just don't do anything.

Assuming I did all the research and found the best combination of diet/exercise for each goal what kind of time scale would I be looking at for each one?

Fitness isn't a destination, it's a journey. It will last as long as you last. Starting and stopping won't be helping you, but keeping at it will be sure to provide positive effects in your life and future.

I understand that, and I with a bit of luck I might manage to stay in what ever shape I manage get myself into but that's not really what I'm asking, I just want to know roughly how quickly I can get to skinny or defined?

ehhh...I hate this question lol. It depends solely on you and the effort you put into it, the diet, and time you spend doing it. Remember, everyone has a different opinion of what "skinny" is. I can't answer this question.

Serious here. Diet, then bulk. Work on your strength and power (low reps, explosive moviments).

Try something like evolutionary eating and/or intermittent fasting. Worked quite well for me.

Its not about the exercises or the diet, its about the experience of the journey and the lessons you learn on that journey. The journey of life can be long and hard, but it can also be a journey. Journey. Journey.
