So, /fit/,

I've been reading about a 36 hour fast weekly. Supposedly, this fast has several benefits which are worth considering.
-Fewer free radicals: during a fast the mitochondria, sensing a lack of food, become more efficient. Like a cleaner burning fire it creates less free radicals per calorie burned.
-More antioxidants: The diminishing number of free radicals is met by an increase of antioxidant production within your cells. These enzymes destroy free radicals.
- Stronger cells.

Among others.
According to the studies the stress the fast imposes on your body is a good form of stress (like exercise) which trains your body to bounce back more efficiently. Cancer and heart problems are also warded off.

So, /fit/, what is your take on this?
I will begin doing this next week.
>> Anonymous
won't this force your body to go into starvation mode?
>> Anonymous
Sounds sketchy. Wouldn't try it unless you know exactly what you're doing.

>free radicals
>antioxidants
>Cancer and heart problems are also warded off
Are you dense? Learn to spot new age homeopathic nonsense when you see it. You'll get a temporary energy boost as sort of a panic mechanism, then you'll enjoy the horrid aftereffects for a while afterwards.

The only reasons to fast:
-Spiritual
-Bets
-Hunger strikes
-You don't have any food
-As a test of discipline

For 36 hours? No. Starvation takes a lot longer than that.
Humans are programmed to go WEEKS without food... before it starts eating muscles and organs. This is assuming water, of course.
>> Miranda Priestly !!8x4V+z9rg4V
>>151780

Well, the 'good' stress part of it does make sense though.
Think of it like the stress put on your body during exercise.
People tend to freak out, but going one day without eating is not really too huge of a deal.

Any links OP?
>> Anonymous
>>151781
Yeah but your body will still going into it's response to starvation after only like 12 hours without food.
>> Anonymous
>>151783
With how much not eating breakfast can fuck you up, I doubt 36 hours is going to be much better. But I've gone that long without eating before, and while it's interesting I guess, your body pretty much screams at you how bad it is the majority of the time.

But whatever, part of health and fitness is trying shit out and forming an unbiased opinion on it, so if you give it a shot and it works great, good for you, but don't make excuses for it.
>> Miranda Priestly !!8x4V+z9rg4V

Yeah. That's what I was thinking.
I'm going to go at it for about 6 weeks and see what happens.

He/she will (can't tell from the name). And he/she will go through common symptoms of a low metabolism like skin flare ups and constipation.

>>151781

We aren't talking about literally starving, we're talking about your metabolism going into "starvation mode", in which you confuse the fuck out of it by not eating, so it has no clue when it's going to get food energy again, and thus starts holding on to fat and water like it's going out of style. Your skin will get dry because your body literal takes water away from it. Your body will hold on to every tiny bit of food and fecal matter, trying fruitlessly to get energy out of it. EVERYTHING will start being turned to fat.

This is an emergency survival mechanism and if you keep forcing your body to abuse it, you will fuck up your overall health and metabolism. Trust me, I've been there a lot and I had to unlearn all my horrible habits to get comfortable with regular eating again. It's not fun.

And this can all begin happening within 24 hours. As soon as your body starts realizing it is being deprived of regular meals, it goes into survival mode. No, this isn't going to kill you, but your body will be taking drastic measures to protect itself and you aren't going to notice it until you start getting black outs and head rushes and shivering when it's 85 degrees.

I went 4 and a half days eating, and nothing happened. None of this. I walked around school each day perfectly fine, and took tests/did homework like normal. I just drank water and stuff. When I was done, I ate fruit snacks and shit and nothing really happened>_>

I meant to say I went 4 and a half days WITHOUT eating...

I think people over-exagerate the harm of like, skipping a meal or some shit like that. That's why America has people that look like they're on growth hormone >_>

I've gone eight full days no food, only water. Did a couple saltwater flushes during that episode as well... Went about my daily business (8hrs a day at a standing job [computer repair at a retail store]) and had absolutely NO ill effects. I would get hungry from time to time but after the 3rd day that went away too.

WHen i started eating again i didnt get OMG XBOX HUEG in a week because of fucked metabo either. In fact I lost 7 lbs from the ordeal and only gained back 2, and I wasnt doing it for weightloss either. I did it as a test of discipline. My diet, upon hte second day of eating, returned to a haphazard schedule of sometimes poorly picked choices (burgers) it had been before as well, no ill effect.

if your asking if i developed skin problems: no. I didnt notice any real change in skin appearance, although ive read plenty that its supposed to clear skin rather well after long enough.

I will note that my tongue became VERY white during this perioud. That was caused by the shitfuckton of toxins my body was finaly getting a chance to expel. quite a site i must say. that started clearing way around the 8th day as well.

No but its good enough to disprove your fail in thinking that it absolutely without question fucks you over. Yeah different people will experience different things, but to profess that it will fuck you up and bloat your ass when you go back to eating is just ignorant.

perhaps if you go back to eating quadruple bacon cheeseburgers with extra cheese and mayo you'll baloon up right afterwards...

i recommend fasting
it gives ur insides a break,
a chance to get clean for a brief moment.
it releases energy.
and frankly, slower metabolism is the key to longer age and such.
>> Anonymous
I tooootally lol'd when I started to read this thread.
People are so fucking ignorant, undereducated, and paranoid.
Half of you newfags shouldn't even be saying the shit you do because you know absolutely nothing, and you're potentially discouraging someone from doing something that it actually not that bad of an idea.

NO you won't go into starvation mode. (Thanks Miranda.)

NO you won't mess up metabolism. (Are you fucking stupid? Your metabolism would take a month of eating nothing or pure shit to get thrown off balance, how fucking unstable and fragile do you think our bodies are, anon?)

YES you will feel better. (I've done fasting before, I do it for three days about every six months, as I'm a huge health freak, and I totally recommend it. Although you may have trouble on the first two days, the third day's a breeze, and by the fourth, you feel amazing.)

Anon, stop being so fucking ignorant and hebetudinous. It's sickening the way you shit heads smear your ridiculous paranoia all over the place. Read a book or take a biology class before you go off spieling about how EVERYTHING besides SQUATZ is bad for you.
>> Anonymous
>>152316
yea fasting is amazing really
it's cleaning out all the rust and shit that has built up in the body.
letting your body rest and clean itself makes a big difference in how you feel.
it could be a real torture in the beginning, depending how much crap u got inside in the first place, the first 3 days you could even throw up and your sweat can really start to smell but after a good fast your as good as new
also it helps to quit bad habits like smoking and drinking

Hey don't take our word for it man, starvation is awesome, what do thousands of studies and nutritionists and trainers know, we're all just narrow, just don't eat anything, ever again, and enjoy countless esoteric health benefits. Even better, enjoy them somewhere else(get the fuck out).
>> Anonymous
OP, assuming that you have a decent intack of nutrition, even if it's at random times like most of us, and you get enough food on average, AND you're already healthy now, you can do a lot of good by fasting every now and then. Once a week is good, more than that is not. Besides what you mentioned your liver is going to be able to process cholesterol and many other things in your blood that it often can't focus on completely. Stay safe, that's all.
>> Miranda Priestly !!8x4V+z9rg4V
/fit/, you are mostly uneducated. I will enjoy my gast and you can keep on being fat. Thnks to the 3 of you with a brain.
>> TEEJ !Pfv0vkh2h.
>>152389
HAH. You say "we" like you're a fucking nutritionist. Dude, you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about... If you actually have the fucking nerve to say that fasting once a week is terribly bad for you, then please, do prove yourself. Do a case study, or a fucking at-home science experiment on yourself. Tell your mom to stop buying chips and shit, and just TRY it. You won't die, your metabolism won't go to shit, you won't get brain cancer, blah blah fucking blah. Don't be such an ignorant little turd.
>> Anonymous
>>152389

saying that fasting is bad for you is same as saying that cold water is unhealthy.
Unless you're a newborn these things actually are great for you.
If a grownup thinks he can't survive without having to snack on something every 3-5 hours he's officially a retard not a healthy guy.

G'day.

Actually fasting is not focused on weightloss even tho it works that way too
it's for improving a persons general wellbeing
actually. and has tons of benefits and so on.
very popular method for staying healthy and has been around for thousands of years.
i can't believe some people still think it's some pseudo-science bullshit.

i'm amazed how some people still are in the dark.

Fasting is natural. Only until the last 2000 years have humans been able to get a steady supply of food to eat. The 500,000 years before that eating was a gamble. And it really wasn't fasting either, it was more like starving. Sometimes there was an abundance of food, sometimes the hunter/gatherers would go days before finding some game. Do you honestly think that people were eating 3 large meals (or 5-6 small meals) EVERY day?
>> Anonymous
Fasting works fine, so long as you don't do anything strenuous. If you lift weights, your body will NOT be able to build muscle to compensate. If you do anything high impact, your joints will wither away with mind boggling speed.

So basically, you must slow yourself down almost completely or else you'll be doing more harm than good. Yes, there are recorded benefits such as lower incidence of cancer and heart disease and a general lengthened life.

As for antioxidants, if you really want them, just eat your fruit. Fasting requires major lifestyle modifications that most people in /fit/ don't care for. I, for one, have a hard time NOT working out as much as I do. I'd have great difficulty quitting cold turkey for any period of time.
>> Anonymous
this will slow down your metabolism and destroy your muscle, if you have any.
