Long Distance Running Anonymous
Hey /fit/

I was just hoping for some advice really. Some friends and I have decided that we will run the London Marathon in 2009 (a little over a year from now) so I think that I kinda need to get training as soon as possible. I am relativly fit at the moment but have never been much of a runner.

Is there anyone out there who is a long distance runner and can give me a few training tips and let me know what I am in for? Thanks in advance!

world of pain, at least if you strive for a decent time, unlike those casualfags that take like 6 hours and walk half the distance just to be able to say they've "ran" a marathon, when they actually didn't

as for training, do hiit in the morning (best way to raise stamina imo) and train your leg muscles in the evening, this is a better training for long distance running than long distance running itself

forgot to add, of course don't completely neglect running long distances in your training either, run as much you can 2 days per week, the other days HIIT, rest on sundays

I've never been a fan of HIIT for training for long distance running. HIIT is an anaerobic exercise, and running a marathon uses almost none of your anaerobic system.

A schedule for marathon training for noobs. Use it as a guideline.

day 1,2,3,4 refer to runs, not the first four days of the week. By all means make your schedule so that you get a full day's rest before and after the long run.

Also, if you're already fit there's no need to start from week 1. The short runs (day 1 and 3) should not feel taxing to do and should take 30-40 minutes to complete. Increase/decrease your speed and/or distance accordingly

picture very related.
