Hey /fit/, I have a quick question, and I figure you guys might know the answer.

I'm about 5'8", and 215. Not fat, a lot of muscle on my frame, but I could stand to lose about 30 pounds. I have all the time in the world to do this, so I'm in no hurry.

My question is, how many grams of protein do I need to consume per day to not lose any muscle?

Try 1g per lb of body weight. Since you're losing a good amount of weight, you will probably lose a bit of muscle but nothing extreme as long as you keep the protein intake up.

Okay, that's around what I thought. So around 180 g/day. Cool.

Next question. How many pounds per month would be healthy?

2lbs a week is good. Your maintenance weight should be around 2700 calories, so if you eat about 2000 you'll be golden. Expect to lose a bit more than 2lbs a week early on, but it will average out. Also, don't forget to spread your calories out so that your metabolism doesn't crash.
