There are two thought patterns that I experience as someone who has severe insomnia. I think about all the things Im afraid of, what I need to do, how I can do them, what I did earlier that day, a bunch of random crap and I am thinking as though Im taking an exam or Im in a conversation. Following that, right before I sleep, I think as just how I think when I wake up. Its slow and I finish thoughts before I narrate them in my head. My eyes roll back, I breathe through my nose, and then if there is another step its lost in my unconsciousness forever. Dont think about comfort, just choose a position and stay in it and your body will find it acceptable within a couple minutes and you'll be just fine for the night. Also look into RLS if you like to take night walks.
