Hey Anon,
Some pretty good advice here. If you haven't done much cardio fitness lately (or ever), then start off easy. The idea is to get your heart rate up, but not too high. You can worry about actual heart rate later, but here's a tip: if you are struggling to breath, and can no longer speak sentences without gasping, then your body is going to go anaerobic and you will no longer be burning fat (but you will be strengthening your heart). Right now don't worry so much about your heart (sounds terrible, I know). If you get winded walking fast, well then you have to work on your heart.
Honestly, 90% of burning fat or building muscle or whatever is nutrition. Fuck Atkins and fad diet shit. Cut back on fat (no butter, olive oil, sour cream, ice cream, etc), avoid simple carbs like sugar (eat mostly complex carbs), eat an adequate amount of protein. You'll get fat in your diet from most anything. Cutting fat out helps you cut out calories. Eat lots of fruit and vegetables as they'll help fill you up but don't have too many calories, unlike pizza. (I'd recommend making most of your snacks in a day fruits and vegetables, and you should definitely have at least one snack between every meal; this will keep your metabolism up. When your body thinks meals are few and far between it shuts down your metabolism and you won't burn fat.)
Also, someone else said this, but it's important: build some muscle. Muscle mass requires energy to maintain, so you're base metabolism willl burn more calories.
Good luck.
