Are they as good as weights? Better?
>> RSI guy !HjbWRiSTJ.
they're supposed to progressively get harder as you pull, or something.

Nothing compares to free weights.

signed. There's a ton of research that bears it out. I can also contribute personal experience. i was up to 275 on the bench Press machine; free weight I was stuck at 135. BIG difference there.

Free weights all the way.

I can JUST press 220 on flat barbell, but on the machine, 310 for triples takes nothing out of me.

The ROM seems smaller on machines too (which would help get more weight, less muscle growth though)

I've had numerous personal trainers that say for a general lifting program, they're perfect. This is because (as you assholes might've noticed) lifting is hardest at the top and bottom of a movement. Supposedly bowflex is the only lower-end weight machine that makes the beginning and end easier so that you can achieve HIGHER weights on the middle of your excercise.

Does that make sense? Like, it makes it easier at the beginning and end of the movement so that you can make more steady progress. It makes sense I swear.

Yeah, i've heard they're good for that. I dunno why you guys are obsessing about the "number" on the bar. Just because the number is different doesn't mean you aren't making progress? Don't be retarded. Boxflex is supposed to hit all the heads of your muscles because of what above anon talked about.

BOWFLEX IS GOOD FOR MOST PEOPLE

except for the fact it's the bottom of the exercise that produces the growth.
It's the first 1\4 of a bicep curl that really stimulates growth.
It's the very bottom of the fly, to about 3 inches up, that once again, stimulates the growth.

That's why a full range of motion's important, plenty of people do lockout to full on lets say the bench, but if that bar doesn't touch your chest, and you don't explode up, you'll be missing alot of pec stimulation.

Or a squat, the hardest part, is going from eccentric>concentric.

Or any other exercise, that's why if you do something like a chinup from a DEAD hang, your reps rocket down.

Probably ok for general fitness.
Won't do much in the way of functional strength though.

Then why hasn't the miracle machine eliminated all free weights? The reason is that things like bow flex are NOT a substitute for free weights. They don't hit the stabilizing muscles the way free weights do. My shoulders grew MASSIVELY after I went from a machine to barbell. In the end you only cheat yourself by falling for the sales pitch. Then who's retarded?

The machines inflate the numbers so you think you're making progress and recommend it to other people.
