So /fit/, I need an opinion.

Its been 4 weeks of 3-5 1 hour workouts a week, with a decreased calorie intake daily(not sure of specifics). Rarely do I have greasy foods, sweets, etc. I haven't had pop, or chocolate for this whole time. I started at 245. I am now 230. 6'4. I've got a belly, but its starting to disappear. What do you think I should start doing daily to make this process faster? Jog, HIIT, what?

Thanks for your help.

HIIT would help, obviously, but it seems like your main problem is that you're already looking to speed up the process when it simply can't be done. Keep doing what your doing and you will see results. Shouldn't have let yourself get fat in the first place if you wanted "quick" results.

Truthfully, I'm not exactly "fat." Noticeably, anyhow. I'll admit that I am a bit overweight, but not fat. But thanks for replies anyway.

Cardio is the best way to burn fat. Simple:

Using your body burns calories. Less calories mean less weight. Calorie deficits mean your body consumes stored fat, water and muscle tissue. Lifting and stuff is actually a terrible way to lose weight, to be honest. Lifting burns very very few calories compared to something like walking/jogging or skiing. Yes, muscle is built, but it's not an ideal system for losing weight efficiently.

15 pounds in a month is good, yeah. They say you shouldn't lose more than 2 pounds a week, but it goes really fast if you're already overweight. Once OP hits like 180, it'll start slowing down a lot unless he goes ana.

Also, I have to completely disagree about the strict dieting. Those always fail. Everyone knows it. Everyone who has had a weight problem has failed when try the cold turkey crap. You don't just instantly change your eating habits that you've developed since you were a kid and expect it to last for the rest of your life. There's nothing wrong with pizza or chinese food or whatever is your vice like once or twice a month. It only makes you obese when you gobble it multiple times a week and stop exercising.

It's a much bigger problem in the long run to ignore cravings, cause you're almost guaranteed to just break down and go on some binge episodes. Instead, reward yourself with vice foods. Do stuff like workout great for 2 weeks, then on like a friday or something push yourself to walk/jog an extra mile or so, then make two slices of pizza your reward. Losing weight involves a ton of mental things, so you need to keep yourself happy. That bit of fried chicken or whatever it NOT going to immediately put on massive amounts of fat the second it touches your stomach.

Yea, as I said, I rarely have greasy foods such as pizza and whatnot. If I do go out for supper, usually I'll get like a chicken salad, or something. So far its been working, and I haven't had a craving for soda(which I was a junky of prior to starting this), just been driking skimmed milk, water, and occasionally some juice.

Don't...just don't. Don't get smug and don't lie to yourself. Are you flabby? You said you have a gut. That means you are fat. Likely over 20% body fat. That's fat. No, you aren't so massive that you can't leave the house. The fat doesn't crush your chest when you lay down and make it hard to breath. However, you are fat.

You can weigh 110 pounds and be fat. You can weigh 300 pounds and be lean. Fat and lean are not exclusively linked to weight. Go find out your body fat percentage (get it done by a pro, don't try some moronic online calculator) and if it is over 20%, you are fucking fat. Admit it and it will be much fucking easier to lose weight.

No offense, but it's those people who really are fat, but are in denial, that always fail their weight loss plans. They don't realize they are FAT, so they don't take the weight loss seriously enough. The other people who often fail are the ones who take their plans TOO seriously and eventually go on a wild binge.

15% body fat is average for a male. 22% for a female, because they naturally have more fat from breast tissue and such. If you are 14-16% BF and a male, you are normal. If you like under 10%, you can be considered lean. You can be in good shape at either level. Over 20, you are fat. Just admit it. Over 30, you are fucking shitgiggling obese.

I'm being helpful. I'm not the fat one asking for advice. I'm looking him dead in his eyes and telling him a fact: he is FAT. The more he denies it and keeps saying stuff like "Oh, I'm just plump! Oh, I just carry weight differently!", the harder it will be to actually take his fitness life seriously for more than a month or two. He just reeks of the typical workout quitter who can't stick with his changes and then yo-yo diets for the rest of his life...and the only cure for that is fucking honesty.

As they say, acceptance is step one.

nope. cardio does burn more fat but ONLY during the time ur doing the cardio and VERY little afterwards. working out muscles does burn less fat but but you body consumes and could continue to consume calories up to 24-48 hours later. and with more muscle mass more calories r burned. like babies, to grow u must feed them. babies r the mucles and calories r the food u feed them with

The calories used for rebuilding muscle tissue after a workout at like, low. Less than 100. It's almost insignificant to count something like that as being effective at weight loss. Besides, those muscles strictly use carbs and proteins to go through the rebuilding process, not stored body fat. That's why muscle is most effectively rebuilt when you eat a balanced meal after the workout.

>>74472

Yeah, you're right. All the nutritionists and athletes who know this stuff first hand are just totally wrong. Cardio is how you lose weight, lifting is how you build muscle. Building muscle is not very effective at getting rid of stored body fat...it is effective at building muscle.

Tell me...why can all those linebackers bench upwards of 400 pounds yet they're still fat fuckers? They are physically strong because they lift A LOT, but do very little cardio. If lifting were an effective means of burning fat, you wouldn't have those piles of strong ass gym rats who was still caked with body fat over their huge muscles. They simply would not exist, but they do exists...because lifting alone is a terrible way to slim down. The reason people get ripped and lean is cause they balance their diet and do a ton of cardio and lifting. People who do just cardio are just very skinny.

A little crazy, but I agree with you. People try and reason with themselves to not be labeled "fat". Overweight may sound better, but in the end it's still fat.

Maybe they lift weights to maintain mass and strength, but those guys need to weigh that much, their job is to be big fucking crushing machines.
You can go encourage losing weight, and muscle at the same time, I'll tell anyone who wants to lose fat, but stay muscular, lift your fucking weights, do your multi joint compound exercises, eat your fucking protein.

And the reason HIIT > Solid State cardio, is because 1 uses X amount of calories (Solid state) where as HIIT increases your metabolism for several hours, resulting in a calorie deficit.

And plenty of people with qualifications I couldn't even spell, think squatting is deep is wrong, but who do you reckon's got the healthier and stronger knees, me or them?

The reason people get ripped and lean is they're scared to huge huge and ripped, because it's hard work.

Seriously, don't tell people to try to reach a point where they're losing muscle mass just to get the numbers on the scale moving, if this is about looking good, the mirror's the judge.

If it's about BMI, then go fuck yourself.

If it's about athletic performance, be more godamned specific.

Ok, I'm not disagreeing. Those linebackers do need to be giant tanks to do their jobs. However, my point was just that if lifting was so efficient at burning fat, those linebackers would be 400 pounds of lean fucking muscle.

That logic just fails. The only thing that matters is which one ultimately burns more calories. It doesn't matter if you burn X amount of calories doing a long run or if you burn Y amount of calories from lifting and whatever your body does trying to rebuild the muscles.

The only thing that matters is this: Which is bigger? X or Y?

The point he was trying to make was that running is very efficient at causing weight loss. I'd like to agree with it and elaborate that running (note: I'm not gonna say cardio, cause all cardio is different, swimming is actually pretty awful at burning calories, but running is amazing) is one of the most intense types of exercises out there because it naturally stresses damn near every muscle in your body when done in proper form. Your arms are constantly pumping and fighting gravity and wind resistance, as well as helping blood flow better. Your legs are constantly being moved and, thus, you are working your quads which are the largest group of muscles in your body...working these muscles means a ton of calories are consumed to keep them going. Your midsection is stressed a lot from having to stabilize your entire body while moving, this is also burning calories. This is why running is so damned efficient and everyone who exercises knows this...it's stupidly simple to go running because all you need is a good pair of shoes and a chunk of time.

cont.

Walking or jogging can work the same in place of running. Walking might actually be THE most efficient, because you tire out much less quicker. Someone who walked 10 miles is doing a better job of losing weight than someone who ran five miles. Maybe the five mile guy just got too exhausted from the heavy breathing, but the walker was able to keep it up, albeit it takes the walker longer. Walking is also much better for your bones, especially if you weigh over 180 pounds.

Again, though, I stress that I'm specifically focusing on walking/running, not some other forms of cardio. Stuff like elliptical is more of a gimmick and is actually pretty shitty at burning calories. I've heard from many very good sources that walking/running, biking and cross country skiing are the best forms of cardio for weight loss.

How old are you? Wait until you're going on 40 and your knees become broken pieces of shit because you cared more about building muscle than you did about your body's limits.

And people get lean and ripped because they want to. Why does that make anyone scared to get bigger? They just don't want to get bigger, because they don't have so many mental issues that would be easily covered up by getting big muscles to act like a bully, which sounds exactly like the type of person you are in real life.

Take your LOL IMA GET HUEG rhetoric back to some shitty MMA forum populated by angry white kids.

Nope. I'm an endurance athlete, specifically a long distance runner. I don't need to be huge. And you can be ripped, lean and huge. Lean does not mean little.
