Hey /fit/

I am a really skinnyfag (7% body fat) but I have no visible abs. Wtf? Do I also need to do shit like crunches? Because I heard you don't need to do any of that to get nice abs, just need low body fat.

Also, my ribs are showing, shit is unattractive, I am trying to gain weight though. Why don't bodybuilders, how have ~5% body fat have there rib cage show?

Get it tested again. Also, strength training, including ab work, will help you out. Bodybuilders don't have visible rib cages because their muscle covers it, but you don't need to get that big to cover your rib cage. A little muscle helps smooth it out.

For 90% of people, the battle for abs is against fat. But there are some people, like OP here, that need to build the abs up. Abs are a muscle group and should be treated like them.

Do crunches and weighted abdominal exercises on machines.

I'm the same, I'm very slim but I can't really see my abs. When I stand up straight I can barely pinch the skin around my stomach. There is some fat there no doubt, but surely I should be able to see my abs?

I'm going to start doing some crunches, as the guy said, why shouldn't it be treated like any other muscle group? Makes perfect sense.

you need 10% or less to see your abs.

your problem is you have higher body fat % than you realize.

it's possible to be extremely skinny and have high body fat. if your abs don't show and you don't weigh much, you're skinnyfat.

enjoy failling at even being skinny (don't worry all skinny guys are most likely skinnyfat as well) if you hit the weights and do massive SQUATZ there may be a future for you.

Get into a gym and do hanging leg lifts, either using ab straps or hanging with your arms. Use a bosu ball to do crunches, you get better range of motion and hit your abs a lot more. Side raises, grab a 45lb plate weight and hold it while bending your side as in hold it with your right hand while bending to the left (works your obliques)

Weighted crunches on an Incline 45 degrees, and do them slooowly, very slowly down, then a bit faster up.

For you chest, do pullups with your hands spread as far as you can - this way your upper back will be training. ALso do bench press

I did a fuckton of crunches/leglifts/etc as a fat young lad trying to get sick abs before i realized the whole fat covering issue. Now I've lost a lot of fat but it came off in wierd stages one area at a time so now 80% of my body is lean as fuck but i've basically plataeu'd with the last layer of fat remaining on my abs and obliques. When I flex my abs I can feel retardedly rock hard definition by pressing a finger through the fat layer, but my abs are still not visible.

So, OP, flex your abs. Take a feel. You will either feel a) super hard muscle, b) fatty fat fat fat, or c) flabby mcflabberson. If its anything but a, you need to beef that shit up.
