i play lacrosse, and i'm kinda small (5'9", 165lbs)
if i want to stand a chance in varsity this year, i need to get bigger. i want to work on my upper body. i want to make sure i can hold my own against someone who's 6'3" and 220lbs. i want some definition in my upper body, enough to see abs/obliques/lats/pecs/etc... workout/diets that could help me obtain this goal? lacrosse season starts next february, but there are preseason practices starting sometime after the 10th. could i be ready by the time the season starts?

also, i heard its good if you work out, and then take a protien supplement after.. true? if so, whats the best brand

I played too in high school as defense and I saw 2 of my friends try to do what you want to do, both same size. 1 actually stuck to it and bulked like a motherfucker which really helped in lax and when he played hockey, he's still jacked as fuck 4 years later in college, the other is still a skinny scrawny ass nigga

anyway dedicate yourself to the diet and the re sults will be crazy. remember it's all 70% diet 30% exercise. also exercise is the architect, rest is the builder. rest is very important aswell

that shit aside, you need to be eating alot. I'm sure you could dirty bulk too though and be fine, but you need as much grams of protein as you weigh, so 165grams.

Protein shake within 15 minutes of a workout and eat a meal within 90 minutes of a workout

eat dirty or clean. just get LOTS OF PROTEIN

If you're playing sports, why the fuck do you care about looks. You're never going to be as big as a 6 footer, so you shouldn't try and get as big as them. At the most I'd say you can put on 20 lbs without hampering performance. In addition to the regular conditioning (which practices should take care of), you should be training for agility, raw strength and explosiveness. Once you get strong and quick, there shouldn't be any problem knocking some of those bigger boys on their asses. A 5x5 Stronglifts or a 3x5 Starting Strength program should work wonders for you in 6 months. In addition, its a little known fact among younger trainees that training for performance will give you oftentimes a better physique than someone who trains for appearance.

Post-workout nutrition is paramount, because during this period the body absorbs carbs and protein extremely fast. You have about an hour after training to take in nutrition. Within this window, you want fast-dissolving foods, so take in a sports drink for carbs and a whey powder for your protein. Most grocery stores sell high-quality whey proteins now, pretty much anything you get will be good.

Alright, thats it for tonite, Anon has to hit the rack. For resources, check out the Health & Fitness section in /rs/, there shout be rapidshit links to SS and Stronglifts.

There's a difference between "enough to see abs/obliques/disco-muscle" and being able to hold your ground in a sport against a bigger guy!
Just be fucking honest and say you're doing this for the chicks, that is - looking good, and that'll get you some real advice around here, you self-indulging delusional ASS!
Starve yourself, get that fat off and you'll see muscle strains, before or after you eat your ass off and go to the gym and jerk off with the rest of the testosterone-team flexing in the mirrors, making all the rest of us facepalm!
And by saying "us", I mean, that is the people who are getting pussy without looking like a freak accident of nature!

well i want to get big and look good. i'm not exactly happy with what i look like right now. I'm not a total fatass, but i'm not skinny as an african either. just noticably larger muscle, not just bulk.

Not that guy your responding to, but the Stronglifts regimen will get you big as well as strong, in four months I gained twelve pounds from doing all them SQUATZ and eating a boatload of protein. Pretty cut too. I don't know about the Starting Strength workout, never done it, but /fit/ is always recommending it.

I wonder if you weigh more when you have an erection than when your peni is flaccid?

Yea, before each lifting session I'd do 20 minutes on a stationary bike for a warmup, but usually ended up getting a good cardio workout anyways. You can also try HIIT-style sprinting, another thing /fit/ seems to be in love with for fat loss.
