Creatine is nitrogenous organic acid that occurs naturally in vertebrates and helps to supply energy to muscle and nerve cells.

I've heard a lot of stuff about Creatine. Its suppose to retain water in your muscles or something to make them look bigger. But you have to take a lot of creatine and drink a lot of water.

My dad is an anesthesiologist, and I asked him about creatines affect on the kidneys, this is what he told me verbatim:

"The kidneys are sort of like an on/off switch. If you take creatine and don't die, you should be fine taking more."

But then again, he said that right after he took out a $50,000 life insurance policy on me.

It fills your muscles with water to make them look bigger apparantly. That's all i know from reading posts here on creatine.

Your dad sounds like an idiot, sorry. Creatine has never killed anyone, and that kidney thing is rubbish look at the slow but fatal effects of alcohol on it. Anyway, i may have missed the point with whatever you said.

Yeah, taking creatine can lead to more water being stored in the muscles, but thats not why you take it, thats a bad side effect that you steer clear of by only taking the suggested dosage. Its real job is to promote whatever chemical/hormone/whatever it is that helps your muscles contract. So taking creatine = more/heavier lifts = more muscles in the long run.

But you have to remember that any suppliment is only ever going to be like 1% of building muscle, the other 99% still has to be fucking hard work.

Creatine is also the most studied sports suppliment you can take, theres been so many tests and case studies done on it you will be fine taking it with no worries at all.

Ok, all of these people are really not nailing what Creatine actually does.

Creatine is a naturally occurring chemical and taking more of it will increase the functions your body already uses it for slightly. Taking too much will make you retain too much water and get diarrhea. For what it ACTUALLY does. First and most importantly, it increases the production of satellite cells (the cells that build new myofibrils). These cells are in very limited quantity, so having more of them will drastically increase muscle production. Creatine also helps cellular transport for glycogen, protein and water to the muscles so they can hydrate and sustain work longer.
