you're gait is how you walk. its very complicated. go to a running store that fits you for shoes. sports authority does not count. I was not a runner on my tack team so i cant give you too much more info but im sure someone wil lcome along with a textbook explanation soon enough.

177lbs is fat? Do you have absolutely no muscle at all?
You might want to hit the gym there buddy. Just take your ass to the gym sign up, learn how to lift weights properly, do cardio, and eat a good diet full of veggies, fruit, whole grains, and lean meats. New balance shoes are always comfortable, look in to getting a pair of those if jogging hurts your feet. Don't worry about getting your gait measured, just do outside and do something.

yo homie, here the advice from guys from da hood
buy yourself some asics or mizuno, do not buy that new balance shit, first of all most of they shoes are not for running (disregard being told by them so), and second, did you knew what N writen on their shoes stands for? its for NIGGERS, its the shoe for niggers.
to mesure your gait, wet your feet and stand on come paper, or cardboard, anyting on what the wet footstep will be visible and use the tablet on dis site

OP, trying running barefoot. This is not something I am experienced in (casual runner, prefer my squatz), but from what I've heard, how someone runs barefoot is supposed to be better than how they run in shoes. What I mean specifically, is that instead of the heel first hitting the ground, you run on the balls of your feet. It works your calves a lot more, and I've heard improves your posture and should reduce joint pressure.

This may help you, someone else clarify please. And everyone loves bringing up asics for shoes; whether or not it's deserved, I'm not sure.

yes but to run barefooted you must have pretty food strength, stamina and experience in running, anyway unless you run >10km normaly, running barefooted would be uncalled for.
as for why asics are often brought up, its because the damn well deserve it, they make nice, cheap shoes and its sport oriented so there is no bulshit like in Nike "we r makin teh supa shoes its supa awesome for runnin, althou most of them cushioning and proper pronation, and we do not give any specific for them so you figure it out for yourself, but we charge you twice as much so we must be good, yarr" althou i buy nike shoes when i go for looks and not training...
