After a four-year layoff, I finally got back in to weightlifting about four months ago. I've gotten back up to my previous weights on my lifts. More on some.

Last week I upped my flat bench press from 225 to 245. Did 245 x 5. Awesome. But ever since, I've had an intermittent mild numbness across my right pectoral muscle. It runs laterally, right across the middle in a strip about 1" wide, and feels very superficial (not deep in the muscle). I promise you I did NOT tear the muscle.

Any ideas? I've tried google but maybe I'm just not hitting the right combinations of keywords.

Pic of a hot fittie for your enjoyment.

Just fucking relax a week and don't work it so hard.

Im majoring in sports medicine and I cant think of anything. It may be something as simple as a spasm from the stress on the pectoral. Are you dropping the weight on your pec as you come down?

pinched a sensory nerve?

potassium deficiency. Eat 2 bananas before lifting.

You compressed a nerve. Not a big deal; lift less weight and work on form.

While I take umbrage at being accused of poor form having giving you all no more information than I did (which was intentional, regardless), I agree with the general sentiment that I should go easy this week.

I like to know the hows and whys of things. I am never content with the "it hurts -- don't do it then" approach. For those of you that responded to my question with genuine thought, one more hot body. /thread

Have the same thing on my left deltoid, one spot feels pretty numb. I slept on it weird, so nerve compression seems likely.
