I read once that you're supposed to take your body weight, divide it by two and that's how many ounces you're supposed to drink. Keep in mind that there are 8 ounces in a cup, so divide that number (bodyweight/2) by 8 to find how many cups your supposed to have. About 4 cups in 1 liter/1 quart.

Also, less sodium = less water retained by body, amirite? In that case if water does look like fat on your body than less sodium would make you look more cut?

The water would make your skin thicker, like being fat. That's what happens to women when they're holding water weight: they get bloated.

It wouldn't give you a gut or anything, but it'll make you look soft, like a doughboy.

Sodium's a tricky thing since it's in pretty much everything you eat or drink. Basically, I'd just take in about 1.5 gallons a day and you won't have to worry about sodium intake.
