Dear /fit/

first time poster here.

I'm interested in losing some weight.

I'm female. 5'4" 157 pounds. Most of my weight is down in my stomach and hip areas.

My current target weight is 125. I'm going to start riding my bicycle to work every day instead of driving(my house is about 2 1/2 miles from work, good exercise and save money on gas) Also going to start taking my vitamins to help fight anemia and give my body what it needs.

besides bicycling, what other exercises does /fit/ recommend? Preferably simple at home exercises, since I don't get off of work until the evening and I'm not fond of the gym. I'm thinking sit-ups as a start, but other recommendations would be appreciated.

Since you didn't mention it, I'm just going to make sure. You are fixing your diet, right?

Sit-ups, push-ups, dips, squats, lunges, tuck jumps, anything you can google up really. Make it into a circuit of say 10 reps of 5 exercises and then blast through it as fast as you can 3 times.

I want to avoid the crappy crash dieting, and using diet pills and stuff to try to drop weight, only to have it come back once I stop that stuff.

I want good long term results. I don't have any specific date I need the weight lost, and want to do it the right way.

After having my mom hit over 300 pounds(and the same height as me) seeing the shit ton of health problems she has, and her having to go through surgery to finally lose the weight. My grandma over 250, and finally after she loses the weight(after her first near heart attack, they put her on a very strict diet), a doctor misdiagnosed a hernia, and after getting it taken care of, she has two heart attacks in a row that kill her.

I think I want to nip the weight issue soon and the right way. I'd rather avoid these types of problems in the future.

Yes. It's a bit of a slow process. But I'm cutting out the old crap I used to eat. Avoiding candy, sodas, and stuff like canned vegetables(I don't even touch them at dinner anymore) and avoid fried meats(especially pork)

also my dad loves barbeque, so it helps reduce the fried food dinners.

I'm working on breaking old bad eating habits.

Canned foods like vegetables tend to have a lot of sodium in them.

I grabbed the can of green beans from the pantry.

I single serving of canned green beans has 380mg of sodium, 16% of your supposed daily value. Even a can of Pepsi only has 30mg(though you get a bunch of carbs and sugar in it's place).

Better off to go with fresh foods. For the most part, I find that generally fresh tastes better over canned, and you don't have that big load of sodium in it.
