Interval Training Question Anonymous
Dear /fit/,

A couple of weeks ago, I started interval training. 30 second sprinting, followed by 30 second jogging, in cycles. I do this 4 times a week.

When I first started, I could do 6 cycles (or 6 min), and at the end, I would feel like I was going to vomit.

I read somewhere that every 2 sessions, you should be able to add one cycle to your program. Well, I'm still stuck at 6 cycles. At the end, I still feel like I'm going to vomit. I've ruled out dehydration, so all that is really left is that I'm just a weak ass.

So, my question is, how can I go about improving the time I'm able to go for? I'm not totally out of shape. I can run 4 miles long distance easy, like its nothing. I know the sprinting is a totally different workout, but I still feel bad because I haven't been able to advance at all.

Would it help if instead of doing 6 cycles, I broke it up to say 4-5, then walked/jogged for a couple minutes, then do 2-3 more cycles?

What are some other suggestions?

You push it too the limit. Add the extra cycle, and walk along the razors edge. But don't look down, just keep your head and you'll be finished.

Just keep training as hard as you can. Vomit if you must. Your body will adapt.

vomit and keep going. sucks doesn't it? do it anyway.

don't listen to this man.

Reduce it by one cycle for a little bit, then go back up to where you were. If you you feel like you're going to vomit when you go back up a cycle,i don't know what to tell you. If you don't, then you can conctinue progress.

You might be overtraining, in which case, take a break for a bit and then reduce 2 cycles and go back up each time till you reach your vomit point, at which point you shouldn't vomit anymore.

false. Will induce overtraining. Get out. Only push yourself that hard in competition.

When you feel you're no longer improveing. Take a couple of days of and start again.

The reason you have a hard time adding cycles might be because you're going faster when you're sprinting each time and not even noticing it. You also might want to build up endurance by jogging a few miles so you don't get fatigued as fast.

Fuck yourself, what do you know you pussy "retreat and wait it out" motherfucker? No one has ever achieved greatness and physical ascension by going easier on themselves.

I can already run long distance really easily, as indicated in the opening post. But yea, I'll try going down a cycle or two and see what happens.

And if that doesn't work, I'll see if this "vomit anyway" method works. But hopefully, it won't come to that.

you should always feel like you're going to vomit, that's how you know it's working

All the interval stuff I've read says that your half ass times should be double your pushing times.

So maybe just go for 60-30 instead of 30-30.

This actually sounds like a plausible idea. I'm just wondering if it would lead to too much of a rest time.

Anyone got any ideas for HIIT with a jumping rope? Maybe like two minutes of jumping then burpees?

ACTUALLY, overtraining will cause you to lose progress. go read something you fucking idiot. If you vomit or get that feeling everytime you workout , eventually you'll lose progress. shut the fuck up.

Feeling like you're going to vomit is a good sign, heavy cardio will do that. The breaks between sets will vary greatly depending on the person though. Get a heart monitor of some kind and try to maintain your heart rate in the 160+ zone. Depending on your skill level this will change.

Not OP but is this alright:
Warm up 1.5mile jog
quick rest (water + restroom break)
10 min of HIIT

Also; aren't you supposed to do 30min of cardio to see results?

what he's doing is more of a form of sports training. being able to endure light exercise and exert yourself fully for intervals.

Yeah sure, believe everything you read from skinny physio-therapists and lazy beach body kinesiologists who grab cash from selling second rate poor-mans training knowledge to nobodies like you.

Take it easy then, only run half your HIIT one day then relax and have a Corona with your sunburnt braindead bros and hoes you fucking chump.

I tried HIIT for the first time today (not really sportive femanon here). And god, did I vomit. But well... after that, I felt pretty good.

Good, HIIT should induce vomit.

When I sprint and lift weights, and I'm not suffering a cold sweat, chills, nausea and fatigue at the end - I ashamed that I didn't train hard enough.

That's life for me, and how do I not over train? I eat well, I sleep a lot, I supplement appropriately, and I stimulate my central nervous system to accommodate this kind of training.

you are an idiot. You push your body over the limit and someday you'll pay for it.

if u vomit it means your doing it write

like... pay for it by having a super awesome body?

the limits of the human body are far far above what the mind thinks.

besides, thats how your body adapts, you push it a bit over the limit each workout

you're just upset that you don't have that kind of will power.

The OP is an idiot or a troll, and the rest of you are idiots. A 30 second sprint is extremely draining, regardless of how fit you are, so you need more recovery time.>>142892is the only one with any sense.

If your trying to increase speed from doing that, you might not have good conditioning as a base to gain off of. If thats the problem I advise conditioning for 2 weeks then interval training.

Thank you gentlemen, it's obvious who will make incredible changes here and who will remain mediocre for the rest of their lives.

Why just coast through life when we can take risks and make our own paths, and leave our own legacies. Godspeed!

OP -

I do this too, I tried the 30 seconds sprint at first but I read a study that said something about 20 seconds and then 10 resting 8 times being incredibly effective for most people.

It has been rocking so far...I can only do 4 of the 8 cycles now though...going for five tomorrow! :D
