Yes, genes are the culprit of many things, such as your metabolic rate (to an extent) and how/where the body stores fat, but such remains:
TAKE IN MORE CALORIES THAN YOU BURN ===> GAIN WEIGHT BURN MORE CALORIES THAN YOU TAKE IN ===> LOSE WEIGHT
No exceptions. Maybe your genes make it more or less of an uphill battle, but if you're still putting on pounds you need to re-evaluate your caloric intake and lack of activities.
