Hey /fit/, today I've eaten:

1.3lbs of chicken breast, 8 slices of wholemeal bread with peanut butter, 2 white breadrolls, protein shake

I'm trying to gain weight, is this the way to go about it? I'm still hungry but about to go to bed, eat more?

If not, It'll turn him into one soon enough. Soy is the food equivalent of cutting your own balls off. It'll lower his sperm count, reduce testosterone, and basically just turn him into a nancy.

yeah, it pretty much is, you can spout out studies to support your argument and I can do the same. At the end of the day, I drink a shitload of soymilk and take a lot of soy protein isolate, and I've never felt better since making the switch. I'm not OP, I'm built, and the soy has never given me bitch tits or slowed my gains.

Mmkay.

This is the internet. Everyone is smarter than everyone else. I'm just saying that I have first hand experience with soy, whereas all you've got is superstitions. "Drink soy milk and you'll turn into a woman". Soy milk may have an effect on testosterone levels, but nothing's proved or suggested that that has a physiological effect on the body. There's plenty of stuff out there to suggest dairy does.

No, you're pretty much right about that. You can keep using soy without any noticeable issues for a long time.

It's just that because of some short-sighted observations versus a long-term study isn't quite enough for me.

Why Does Soy Suck?

Soy products contain:

Phytoestrogens: (isoflavones) genistein and daidzein, which mimic and sometimes block the hormone estrogen

Phytates: which block the body's uptake of minerals

Enzyme Inhibitors: which hinder protein digestion

Haemaggluttin: which causes red blood cells to clump together and inhibits oxygen take-up and growth.

Either way, soy protein isn't the only alternative to milk and whey proteins. I alternate between soy and rice proteins, found them to be equally effective. If I noticed any changes or adverse effects due to the soy, I'd probably switch to drinking rice protein with soy milk or water. The only problem with soy I've had so far (switched from dairy about 3 years ago) is that it makes your farts and shits stink worse than anything I've ever eaten.

http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/news/20050825/jury-still-out-on-soy-health

An analysis of close to 200 soy studies conducted over the past two decades showed only limited evidence of specific health benefits associated with eating soy products or taking soy supplements.

Egg has good protein too.

"The most recent study into soy as an effective aid to muscle-building (this study served to help dispel the notion that testosterone decreases in concert with soy consumption), was presented on April 5 2005, and underwritten by the Solae Company.

They found daily supplementation of soy protein, whey or a soy/whey blend resulted in an increase in lean body mass and did not negatively affect testosterone or estradiol levels in 41 male athletes engaging in a weight-training program (9)."

Greg Paul, Ph.D., director of health and nutrition for The Solae Company says:

"The results of this study show that soy protein is just as effective as whey protein in building lean muscle mass as part of a dedicated exercise and nutrition regimen, while contradicting the myth that soy protein may negatively impact testosterone levels in men.

"These results are consistent with prior studies which have compared the effect of whey protein and soy protein on lean muscle mass, and supports the notion that dedicated athletes may benefit from a nutrition regiment that includes both soy and whey proteins."

You mean a study by a soy company found soy to be good for you? Really?

OK, you win. You drink all the cow's milk you want, and I'll enjoy my shrunken balls and bitch tits and keep drinking soy milk.
