Hi /fit/.

Am I read to start weight training? 6 weeks ago I was about 12 stone, I have started eating healthily, I'm down to about 11 stone 4 pounds. I have started doing alternate - 1 day weight machines, 1 day HIIT - with 5 small meals a day (one of them a protein shake). My scales say my body fat is 12% but I don't trust that. My stomach still feels very flabby and I have annoying love handles :( Advice please!

If you are interested in weight training a good spot to start is here: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=998224
It's a pretty detailed write-up of Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength program.

Why would you not be ready for weight training? Even if your main goal is losing fat, weight training will still help preventing muscle loss.

I can still pinch an inch of fat around my stomach so I was thinking my body fat % is too high to bother with weight training?

I have read Rippetoe's program before, it seems good, but for the time being the gym instructor is developing a free weights program for me - that way I can learn how to perform the exercises with good form.

weight training is MORE important if you've trying to lose weight because if you don't you'll lose lean mass and that'll slow your metabolism. do it.
