Aside from walking around our campus (which is admittedly huge) I don't get much exercise. However, I do have the option to play DDR at the campus arcade for upwards of two hours/day. My question is, does anyone know how many calories are burned in a typical 'heavy' set? Obviously, I could just run, but I have more fun this way, and I am curious to know the specific benefits of it, more accurately, if its strictly worse than walking/running.

I'm not particularly overweight, but I would like to keep it that way.

One last note, what is a good place for cheap, healthy food?

It's better than walking, possibly better than running (depending on difficulty, I guess), but worse than a proper exercise regime.

However, I find that DDR is *fun*, and thus easier to stick to then 30 minutes of cardio three days a week. I'd go out of my way to play some DDR whenever I went to the mall (which has a machine), but I generally have to force myself to do so much as take the stairs.

tl;dr DDR is decent but not fantabulous, but you're more likely to stick with it.

If you live in a really hippy-filled college, there's probably some kind of vegetarian/vegan non-profit on campus, or at least healthy alternatives in the DC.

Calories burned depends on your weight. For me at 190, I would burn about 250 calories according to the game. The console versions have a workout mode that estimate the calories you burn. I'd imagine you could probably burn 70-100 calories in a typical heavy song.

Seriously? I can do heavy songs and it feels like I'm sprinting, but I think I'm out of shape.

Well, think about it. You're burning 70-100 calories with barely 2-3 minutes of your time. That's pretty damn good if you can keep it up.

I'm not sure if it's a chain store (in fact, I doubt it is,) but if you live in the Lansing area of Lower Michigan, the store "Horrocks" is rediculously healthy and cheap!
