dear /fit/

is a peanut butter sandwich everyday for lunch good or bad? it's the easiest, fastest, and tastiest meal I can make. I'm trying to be on a diet, by the way.
>> Anonymous
Depends entirely on how much peanut butter you're using.

Although, eating the same meal every day is probably not a good idea anyway.

Get the natural kind. Publix sells some under their own brand. Not that Peter Pan/Jiffy crap.
It's not as sweet, but it's still creamy peanut buttery goodness.
>> Anonymous
>>19275
Publix fails most of the time though, but yeah. If it's JUST peanut butter, no preservatives or sugar or anything like that (as if you'd need it) it should be fine. Remember though white bread is PIG DISGUSTING.
>> Anonymous
peanuts, and peanut butter, are the worst source of protein. any other nut butter is better. you can do better. try harder.

It's just that: ground peanuts and unprocessed oils, just enough to make it spreadable.
And yeah, white bread is PIG DISGUSTING.
Although ironically, I find pig CRAZY DELICIOUS.

sun flower seed butter?
walnut butter?

those any good?

Skippy has some natural peanut butter now that takes awesim. I love my extra crunchy.
>> Sabby !!J9oxJsHtaZJ
>>19384
Crunchy Skippy Peanut Butter may have real peanuts in it, but that shit is still filled with crap you don't need and is counter-productive to weight/fat loss.
It's like a cherry on top of a Sundae with a banana on the sides- it still isn't healthy.
>> Anonymous
>>19287
It's not just about the protein, it's a great source of monounsaturates.
>> Anonymous
>> is a peanut butter sandwich everyday for lunch good or bad?

No diet is good enough to eat everyday. As many statements, you can do better.

If you can't cook, or have no imagination. Buy some canfood. Tuna is a great source for protein and is very low on fat (Yes low on omega-3 aswell). The same goes for cottage-cheese.

My advice, grainy bread, put cot-cheese and tuna ontop along with any vegtable (tomato, sallad etc.)

Anyone can do it. It's not really something you "cook" you just prepare it, so there are no excuses!

in my house, i have jif and some natural brand. the natural one only has peanuts and salt, and jif has sugar among other things.
BUT, the jif has less calories than the natural one. wtf? purely from a weight loss view, wouldn't that make jif better?
>> Anonymous
>>19425
Fewer calories doesn't mean it's better. jif is filled with crap for nutrients as where natural peanut butter is high in unsaturated fats and some protein. Eating fewer calories is not synonymous with eating healthy.

i know, but JUST for losing weight, disregarding health/nutrients?

If there is a third ingredient, drop and break jar, check next.

>Bread: 100% WHOLE MOTHER-FUCKING WHEAT
If you do not see that 100% or at least the word whole (not just wheat), drop it and stomp it.

No. No no no. No. You are at no danger from seafood mercury unless you are actually currently a fetus.

Oh yes, this too. Seriously, if it has corn syrup in it, how about just not eating it at all?

Bonus fact: You might discover one mustard and no ketchups in wal-mart that aren't basically corn syrup.

Yeah, like I'm gonna pay fucking $10 for a jar of almond butter when I can get 3-4 jars of peanut butter for the same price.

I buy Teddie's super-chunky. The only ingredients are peanuts and salt :D

sure it does. it means to double check all these facts hearing for the first time ever, by seeing other sources say it too. read up. at least it will be popular. you know, "grain of salt"?

i know all this shit is protip. i want to encourage more than just reading here on a /fit/ post that will disappear.

Because he's mostly right. And because Japan eats that shit all their extended lives. Canned Tuna does contain undesirable levels of mercury though...

It really depends on the type of fish and where it's caught. As biological concentrators (predators) it's almost entirely based upon the environment. Fish that range principally in the ocean or other critters who do the same (read:shrimp) generally don't have terribly high levels of heavy metals, however freshwater fish that are farm raised often contain extreme levels.

Go figure, eh?

I don't know about that, but they do have the most people living 100+ years, so they must be doing something right.

The japanese do have a higher than normal stomach cancer rate. Which would be a lot more relevant to this discussion if stomach cancer and mercury were in any way related.
>> Anonymous
>>19587
So what is their higher incidence of stomach cancer from?
>> Anonymous
>>19588

Quite possibly genetics. Mercury isn't a carcinogen. At all. In any way.

So who's a reputable source to find out what's safe to eat? If you can't trust the FDA because it's run by the food and drug lobby, who can you trust?
>> Anonymous
>>19608

I never said not to trust the FDA. Anyone who says that is selling you that patented, "live off the grid, the corporations are trying to steal your mind" brand of crazy. The FDA is, by and large, a very reputable institution. The information they put out is typically of high quality.
>> Anonymous
>>19617
The FDA is not a reputable organization. Maybe 30 years ago.
>> Anonymous
>>19617
Like the go ahead on Vioxx?
>> Anonymous
>>19630

Not the FDA's fault. The drug companies fault, for withholding information. Don't get into this with me, you won't win.
>> Anonymous
>>19634
Let's go.

The FDA can't work if it's run by the industry and has people coming out of it to go become lobbyists.
>> Anonymous
>>19634
The drug companies and any other company will do whatever they can, they're psychopaths. They do not have a conscience.

It's the government agency's responsibility.
>> Anonymous
>>19637

Propose an alternative. Oh wait, you can't because you know nothing about the pharmaceutical industry? That's what I thought.
>> Anonymous
>>19639

So what your saying is, the FDA should have kicked in Merck's door, and seized all of the study data they had?
>> Anonymous
>>19643
The FDA should have performed their own studies and not expect a for profit agency to do it for them
>> Anonymous
>>19646

It's pretty clear to me you have no idea how this works. The drug didn't show serious side effects until it was used by large populations over years. You know what the only way to test whether a drug will show serious side effects when used by large populations over years is?

Let the population use it for years.

So, you're ok with the fox guarding the henhouse. Next you'll start in with the "free market" sorting it all out.
>> Anonymous
>>19656

I don't see an alternative proposed there, so I'm just going to assume you're as fucked for ideas as everyone else. The FDA gets the job done, in the majority of cases. Sure, they've failed, in a very public manner, a handful of times. But until I hear "X way would be better", you're just pissing in the wind.
>> Anonymous
>>19660
This person knows what's going on, so listen.
>> Anonymous
>>19660
Well, you need stricter rules for what kind of jobs you can get afterwards. Government officials have no business turning into lobbyists afterwards so they can buy government.

The #1 thing is to elect better leaders who actually believe in good government. The Bush admin and Republicans believe that all government is bad and then put absolute hacks, yes men and cronies.

So those are the first two steps.
>> Anonymous
>>19674

If you want different leadership, vote. FDA doesn't set the revolving door time limits, congress does.
>> Anonymous
>>19682
I do, it's just hard if you want to eat better when fatasses who don't know shit about their health or how the government should run constnatly elect bad leaders
>> Anonymous
>>19687

When you go to talk to your elected officials, though, the first thing you say shouldn't be "tighten revolving door restrictions" or "zomg cancel the FDA."

It should be "increase the FDA's funding as much as you possibly can". 95% of the problem at FDA is due to the chronic, near-criminal, underfunding of the agency. They simply cannot afford to do a good job on the money congress gives them, and because the agency bosses are Bush appointees, they consistently low-ball the budget requests, asking for much less than they actually need. They need the Bush political appointees at the top replaced with Obama appointees, and they need a budget that actually allows them to do the work they're needed for.
>> Anonymous
>>19711
canceling the fda would be a terrible idea, I know. It just needs to be fixed.

The revolving door thing is an issue with all these government agencies but you say that and politicians are immediately going to balk. You're right.

The FDA in it's current incarnation is pretty fucking useless and deliberately so.

usually "chunk light tuna" has lower mercury levels. if you ate no more than 4 of these you're well in the green according to a couple websites i've looked
Salmon is very low in mercury especially from the north, fraction of what tuna has on average so you can get away with eating one everyday i think.

i rely on salmon most of the time.
