I know the joke and everything, but it's actually a valid concern. Women have much smaller bodies on average and it's a lot easier for them to show bulk than it is for men.
Think about it. If you had a 5'3" frame and weighed 110 pounds, would you really want 10 or more pounds of muscle added to that? You wouldn't look very feminine. Women look good in two body types - very lean (runner/dancer build) or slightly soft, but not fat (sometimes called the "girlfriend" physique). Men just look better with muscles because their bodies carry it better.
The same principal applies to those really short guys who end up with that odd looking frat boy body. They achieve that body VERY quickly because their small frame fills out fast with muscle, whereas a 6'2" guy would need a lot more muscle growth to look the same way. On the flip side, taller people can be fatter and still look completely normal, but short people who get fat show it easily. Height is a big factor in the way people look.
