Drinking water Anonymous
So I just got back from the gym, and I feel like I'm going to vomit. This doesn't happen very often, usually only when I run out of water and have to fill up from a water fountain. The water I bring with me is filtered and in a one liter bottle.

I'm not sure if it's something in the fountain water, if I'm drinking too much water, or if it's something else entirely. Maybe I'm not eating properly?

What is the cause of this, /fit/?

Also, I didn't haven any relevant pictures, so here's one of a tiger that thinks it's a pig.

I used to get headaches from drinking water from public fountains. Not that that helps you, but I thought I'd share.

I also would like to know the cause of this, however.

Not enough water already in your system or you had too much dairy before you worked out. Drinking water during the workout doesn't do much and can even make you feel sick if you take too much. Dairy products will curdle in your stomach during a workout and make you feel sick.

Exercise increases heart rate and raises body temperature. This can make you feel nauseous.

Warm up and down to gradually build and lower your heart rate.

If the water is cold, or even cool, you're probably throwing yourself into shock. When you drink large ammounts of water, which when cool absorbs quite a bit of heat, your core body temperature changes rapidly because you're already overheating, and now you've introduced a huge heat sink. Even a change of far less than 1 degree F in a short period of time completely throws off your blood pressure and can make you feel very very sick.

I always drink my water after cooling down, and never cold. Try it and see if that helps.

1L of water during a workout is WAY too much. It's quite possible that drinking too much water made you feel like that.

When you sweat, you lose both water and electrolytes. The amount of either isn't really that important, as long as it's not too drastic. What's more important is the balance between the two. When you drink that much water, you now have much more water with a reduced amount of electrolytes, and it fucks up the balance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyponatremia

It's a much better idea to drink just a little water when you get thirsty during the workout, and you can drink the 1L during the next few hours after you're done.

It could also be unrelated to water consumption. Not getting enough carbs in before the workout can also make you feel like that.

Well, this advice may be simple, but it seems effective to people's OMG COLD WATER problems:
I drink water prior to exercising, and when I'm in the middle of doing it, and I get thirsty, I first swish it back and forth in my mouth to get it up to temperature.

Because yeah, swallowing it cold makes me feel kind of sick.
