Hand Grip H.A.
Hey /fit/,

I've been wondering for a while, is there a way to train/strenghten your hand grip? I've noticed that I have a somewhat weak grip, specially for abs excercises (which makes them harder to do properly).

Do you know/recommend some "grip" exercises? I've never researched about this so I have absolutely no fucking idea.

I guess that's part of the reason. Getting laid often makes it hard for one to want to wank.

Any other kind of exercise?

deadlifts. and if you are using gloves at the gym, stop doing that.

OH WOW. I didn't know the gloves part.
May I ask why?

gloves reduce your grip strength. plus they make you look like a faggot. if you need something to increase friction/reduce sweat use chalk.

Doing it wrong. Gloves increase the circumference of the object being gripped due to having dimensions of its own. This will make the grip harder. Like wrapping a towel around the bar or using a fatbar.

OP,>>443318was serious about the sledgeing. See previous thread on grip in /fit/

also from ZCs FAQ:

15. Should I use gloves/straps/wraps for lifting?

ANSWER: You should get away from the notion of using wraps and other hand gear solely for comfort. Lifting without grip assistance equipment is crucial to developing basic hand strength, as well as continuing to develop that hand strength.

Using wraps/straps/gloves:
1) Your hands won't toughen up as quickly
2) You won't develop grip strength as quickly (if at all, depending on what kind of straps you use)
3) You won't be able to carry/tolerate heavier weight on your soft hands as you get stronger.

Use chalk. It's dirt cheap and gets the job done: increases friction, but doesn't take the work away from your hands.

The gloves make you look and feel like a pussy, sure, but grip strength is improved through increased grip circumference. FAQ seems to be lumping straps and various other qualities of gloves together.

To increase grip strength more effectively when doing DL's, one should use double pronated grip as much as possible.

Agreed, this is the same notion as runners wearing fancy schmancy cushioned shoes. They do a load of the work and your feet stay weak as hell.

In my experience and other lifters I've talked to, gloves make it much easier on the lifter when lifting heavy especially. But it's a trade off because you sacrifice the development of your grip strength and you don't toughen your hands properly to lift really heavy and sustain a grip for long periods of time, kinda like the faq says.

Also, I have no idea wtf>>443352is talking about with regards to circumference unless he's just trying to defend his wearing of gloves, which I really don't give a shit who wears them or doesn't. Sure it adds a little circumference, but it's infinitesimal compared to the advantage you have when lifting with them versus without them.

If you don't want calluses and don't mind a lessening of grip strength, then wear gloves. If you want to develop your grip further and toughen your hands, then don't wear them. It's up to you. But I would probably go by the faq rather than listen to some random anon weakly defend his glove wearing. Plus I don't recall seeing ZC wearing them, or any other serious lifter at the gym either. Usually it's the casuals or noobs wearing them.

Weird, around my hometown, it's the "hardcores" that use them the most, because it enables them to lift heavier than their hands/wrists can handle.

It's three days a week motherfuckers like me who don't use them.

the fact that this debate of
GLOVES for the hardcore or SUPER l33t hardcore
can even occur is a sign of the apocalypse. unless this is an extremely well done ruse by a 10/10 troll.

i liken this debate to 'what is better for systemic-wide muscle and strength gains: squats+deadlifts, or curls?'

also this thread is a perfect example of how /fit/ 'doesnt even know it doesnt know'
