Fuck /fit/ I've had an ingrown toenail for like 6 months. It hurts like a bitch then I cut it real short so it stops and doesn't get infected but I need to fix the shit. It's short right now but I'm going to get some Epsom salts and soak it in there tonight, keeping iodine on it after soaking. I don't wear shoes or socks whenever I can help it to let it breathe.

Anything else I can try?

Inb4 doctor, it's not that bad yet. If the salts or letting it grow out and putting something between the nail and skin it doesn't fix it in a few months I'll go.

I've had a lot of ingrown toenails.

Solution is to cut it out, man up and cut it out yourself, it's not hard.

When it starts to grow back in, use some tweezers or something to slide cotton under the nail, it'll grow up over the skin and end up normal again.

Do fucking NOT attempt to DIY fix this.

I had ingrown toenails in both my feet and I put up with cutting them, tweezing them and hoping they'd grow back right for about a year and a half. They didn't.

So, I went to the doctor and got the minor surgery - they 'fixed' the nails so they should grow back right. One did, the other didn't.

Now, I have a fear of needles and to get the surgery you need to have injections in your toes to numb the area. This hurts like fuck as they have to jab them good. So I put off going again for 2 years - I continued to play football (or soccer, if you like) despite the agony it caused me. So I went back, they had to give me fucking 6 injections in the toe and I could still fucking feel everything but I lied and I let them do it anyway.

So it still grew back wrong (you see - if proffesionals can't do this right everytime you trying with some fucking tweezers is not going to fucking work). So this time I left it another 2 years. Another 2 years of constant pain, having to rest my foot awkwardly in bed - I'm sure you can relate.

I went, and this time they removed the nail bed so it cannot grow back. I have a slightly weird looking toe, but honestly I will never, ever fucking reccomend doing DIY because it will make it worse.

TLDR; go to the doctor.

hard out. my gf has had one for 12 months. she ended up having to get an operation and it still hasnt fully healed (1 month later). Me myself? When i grew up i'd get them on my hands and my big toe all the time, just man up and dig right the fuck in there and cut all the nail out. I also make like a trench in the middle of the nail so that it grows towards the middle of the nail instead of into the skin.

Doctor is the only way. I had ingrown nail for like year and it didn't even try to heal itself. It can only get worse. It's not THAT painful (few injections to the toe. Needles themselves don't even feel as if penetrating skin. The increased pressure hurts a little. Operation itself is like 30 seconds) and you will feel better. After cutting you can walk normally after a day and it heals completely after 2 weeks.

EITHER MAN UP AND CUT IT OUT YOURSELF (IT WILL HURT, BUT ONCE YOU GET IT OUT YOU WILL FEEL A LOT BETTER), OR GO TO THE DOCTOR. 6 MONTHS IS BAD.

I had the operation to remove the whole nail and i assure you, anything you can do is to stop it now is better than getting that injection in your toe to numb it. I've never felt pain like that in my life and i needed several to numb it.
