Crossfitters winning in a fight? Crossfit has a workout called "Fight Gone Bad" which they say recreates the MMA experience... It consists of upright rows and push-presses. I fucking lol'd. Yeah, that's as close as Crossfit comes to being bad-ass.

What CrossFit calls the Shoulder Press is more commonly known outside CrossFit as the Military Press. I don't know why they named it differently, but they did. And yes, the lady in the picture is jerking the bar, not press or push-pressing it.

LoL at all the shit-talking on my deadlift, I had a lower back injury, oddly enough I found I was able to continue squatting before i could with the deadlift, I took time off the deadlift as it has always been a difficult lift for me due to long femurs... (I had to start deadlifting a couple pegs up because of shin-scraping) If it makes you feel any better I can do like 65 pullups.

Crossfit is a workout that was created by physical trainers and yes, an ex-navy seal. Yes, right now it is followed religiously by most special ops units (just about all army and navy, to include SEALS); even schoolhouse is doing it. Go swing by Camp Mackall and have a look for yourself. It has also been "unofficially adopted" by the 75th Ranger Regiment. Currently, USMC is working on a program of crossfit they could implement corps-wide. You'll also find a ton of firefighters and SWAT teams doing it.

That doesn't mean crossfit will get you ripped, it won't. The majority of guys I know who started it actually lost muscle mass; but what they gained was worth it FOR THEM and a lot more relevant to their JOB.

Try walking around with more crap than what those dudes in the picture are wearing, in the mid-day desert heat, and still be expected to do what you need to do when the time comes. Lifting alone, or one type of cardio just doesn't cut it.

What crossfit does is try to hit on a real broad range of exercises and types of exercising, attempting to create someone who can beat any challenge that comes their way. So no, you're not going to find too many crossfitters running 10 miles, but you should find plenty that can run a man down in 3 blocks, and have stamina left over to wrestle with him. Or climb a 10' wall with all their gear on and still be able to dash over and pick a crate up without getting completely winded.

Most guys I know who do it use it more to augment their own primary workouts (and in their defense, crossfit was designed to be conducted while playing a sport too), and it does seem to help. Most of the guys I know who trained up with crossfit by and large made it through SFAS with no issue as well.

Take it for what it's worth. It's not going to make you a hulking beast, and it's not make you a marathoner. In fact I'm not sure I'd even touch it if I wasn't in a military/law enforcement type job. It's definitely WAY too pricey to get yourself "certified", and yeah, it is like a cult for a lot of people.

I'd venture to say it's probably not what the average /fit/er wants to pursue.
