if you're one of those people that get hunger cravings once a week or so, then yes, it is a problem. you're okay to eat 1000 for a few days, but your body knows its not getting enough, it'll flip on a switch and make you go on a binge to eat more.
i know that feeling though. for most of my life (20 years) i've been eating very little because thats how I was raised, never knew that I was eating TOO little and really screwing my body over. I came to the realization that I was eating less than 1000 calories a day so I really fucked up my metabolism. But now I eat up to 1700-1800 w/ exercise (spread over 5 meals every 3 hours) and I feel so much better.
When i tried transitioning to eat more though, it was HARD because I was always full, not used to eating so much. A useful tip is to eat a lot of nuts- peanuts, pecans, walnuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds. High in calories, good fats and will help you reach your ideal calorie amount without eating a truckload.
