/fit/, I've heard that when choosing what to eat, you shouldn't get foods high in sodium, since it'll make you retain water. Does that really matter in the long run if you're trying to burn fat and since water weight?

Errr... I got lost in thought. Get rid of the last 4 words.

Not if you chug enough water to compensate. High sodium is a problem for people who don't drink enough water - chug a gallon \a day for a couple days and you'll piss out the excess salt.

High sodium is bad for reasons besides water retention (if that is even a side effect). Especially if you aren't balancing it with potassium. (blood pressure, etc.)

As far as I know, sodium is irrelevant to fat loss/gain, but is most abundantly found in processed foods, which are the bane of anyone concerned about their health.

If a significant portion of your diet is natural/unprocessed/whole foods, then your sodium intake will be much lower as a result, and you might even drop a few pounds that way, too. Two birds, one stone, etc.
