Run on a track if possible, grass would be next then asphalt. Avoid cement sidewalks at all costs. Purchase a decent pair of running shoes, be willing to spend at least 60+, your knees will thank you. Warm up properly before long or intense runs, start a strength training regiment if you can to ensure a balance of strength in your lower and upper body.
