I need to gain weight. I'm a textbook ectomorph- I am tall and lanky, have long, thin bones, can eat anything with worrying about getting fat, and I never put on muscle. I have worked out on and off for years, with little results.

I have read that the most important part for someone like me to gain weight is eating. Alot. I also need to focus on lifting very heavy weights with very low reps.

Are there any skinny guys like me that have managed to break the curse and gain some weight?

At nine calories per gram, yeah, it is. And unsaturated fat is the good kind of fat.

...Shit. I think I was just trolled.

Nine calories per gram is not near as much as pasta and unsaturated is not goo for weight.

fat = 9 calories per gram.
carb = 4 calories per gram.

unsaturated fat would have more calories per gram than pasta.

Another classic ecto here. I know this is a question that's probably been answered a lot already.. but..

im new to counting calories etc. Roughly what would 5K calories be? I'll do the additional research myself to get a better understanding but I'd like a starting point.

OP doesn't need to change.
Anyway there is simple rule:
to get fatter eat more
to get thinner eat less.
It works.

I'm having a lot of trouble putting on weight to. I only weigh 129, my height is about 5'11. What do you think is a good ratio of carbs, fats, fruits and vegies and how many calories should I eat each day to put on weight?

Thanks

OP, I wouldn't start off lifting heavy. I tried that myself, and let me tell you, it can wreak havoc on your joints and ligaments. I would start off moderately and work into heavier weight. Get used to lifting before you dive into the heavy stuff. I'm sure you're eager to see results, but this is the smart way of going about it. It's never good to injure yourself in the process of self-improvement.
Eating a lot is of course essential, but contrary to some claims, eating everything in sight is not beneficial. Choose foods high in protein and carbs, as people have been saying. It's better to bulk up on good stuff than shit food. Good luck.

Shit. If you can't visualize it now, I'd hate to tell you. It truly is a lot of food, I don't recommend you start off at 5k kcal right off the bat without first experimenting. Try 3k one week, see if you gain, and so on. I don't know how to describe it because it really has to do with food CHOICES. You can drink oil and you'd hit 5k kcal without much effort (assuming you can stomach it), but generally, 5k kcal is a damn lot of food to eat.

It's different for everyone and only you can figure it out for yourself, so do like I suggested above, if you're working out shoot for high protein and at first start with 3k, then 3.5k, 4k, etc.

Invest in weight-gain powder too. I eat constantly through-out the day and I was about 6'0 and 130 pounds, and ya my arms were scrawny as fuck.

Weight gain powder really helped.

There's a curse now?

I'm an extomorph, and it's awesome. It helps being a trap immensely.
