Herro /fit/,

This anonymous is /fat/ and wants to correct the problem. Lean Cuisine frozen meals are hell of convenient while I'm working in cubicle land, and they taste okay when you put enough hot sauce or red pepper flakes or minced onion flakes or black pepper on them. I've heard some say that healthy frozen meals are a godsend when it comes to losing weight. I've heard others say that the salt content isn't worth it, and you'll fuck any chance of losing weight when you eat these things. What does /fit/ think?

In my opinion, all of the premade shit in the world won't help you once the weight is gone. Unless premade frozen foods are the only things you eat, which is highly unlikely, it still does not supplement teaching good eating habits. I think that is paramount. Learn that first, and fuck convenience. Hate to break it to you, but losing the weight will probably be the hardest thing you'll do. There will be no convenience in doing it. Get used to it. Good luck.

yeah youre a dumb fuck. 2 of those would have more than your daily intake of sodium should be.

sodium=water retention , meaning it makes you fucking fat

Damn, you had to go and give sensible advice. Thanks, anon. I might still do these once in awhile, but maybe not every day.

You jerkass, four of these would blow my recommended dosing of sodium, and I sure as shit am not eating four. I've been eating perhaps one daily, perhaps less than that, but I'd been contemplating including more of them in my diet.

herrro to you too
salt just retains water weight. look at all the skinny sodium-eating people in asian. it's not the salt. you can offset sodium with potassium (parsely flakes).

hot pockets are better. reasonable (ok) ingredients
can of soup + spices/veges/meat in tupperware
both are cheaper, probably more substantial

frozen helps with portion control. only so much food in the box. buy a flat of soup at costco and keep stuff at work to mix with the hot broth.

i think you're on the right track

Yeah, it's just not the answer you're looking for. What you need to do is learn how to eat correctly. Keep the frozen foods to a minimum too, laced with a ton of HFCS and MSG's probably.

wow you must be a troll. horrible advice and what a dumbass example of asian people and sodium so ITS OKAY TO TAKE AS MUCH K!? shut the fuck up idiot.

want to stop being fat? DONT SAY SHIT IS OKAY WHEN ITS NOT. stop eating frozen foods ( frozen foods = sodium) fat piece of shit.

I really don't mind that answer. I do need to get into the practice of making my own healthy grub. hell, I've already learned to stop worrying and love my oatz. Any handy resources online to that end would certainly be appreciated.

As far as cooking sites? I'm not too big of a fan of cookbooks unless you're talking about baking. I just basically try to get nice cuts of lean meats, load up on veggies, and supplement good fats. Buy things that are rich in Omega-3's and be sure to keep your fiber intake as high as possible. Picking stuff out from the grocery store isn't counterintuitive. Things that you think are good for you probably are, and vice versa. You just need to have a working practice of relativism. You can't be saying shit like, Oh that Pizza isn't "That" bad for me. You can have some and it's healthy to give yourself a cheat meal, but be wary.

Heh, I took that guy's advice with a grain of salt (tip your waiter, I'm here all week) - I'm half-Asian, half-redneck and quite portly (5'7", 230#), and eating salty Asian foods hasn't exactly helped me, if you catch my meaning.

Thanks, anon - it's nice to see the occasional helpful anon in the sea of jackasses.

Frozen diet meals are OK every now and then... I have two or three of the least boring ones in my freezer for when I'm out of food, need to take a lunch, or have to have dinner *NOW* and get out the door. But jesus fuck they're boring and expensive.

You also can't just eat them and think "OMGZ I'm loosing weight hur hur". For starters, some of the "Healthy and Lite" options are actually packed full of Kj (I'm looking at you, McCain). Eating one for breakfast, lunch and dinner *could* make you gain weight if you don't need much energy, especially if you're sedentary or you snack too much.

Also this anon doesn't think "OMG just eat bettar!" works. You're fat because you *don't* eat well, to fix that you need to analyze what you do and don't eat and make intelligent changes. I personally like the Hacker Diet (Huzzar for thermodynamics!) which is all about your metabolic rate (Check your energy needs at http://www.nutritiondata.com) and balancing that with your food intake.

The easiest piece of advice to *help* is to steam lots of green veggies, and eat them first. Broccoli is my favourite because it's bulky, very energy sparse and very nutritious, and when it's steamed instead of BOILED TO FUCK like most people do it, it's actually delicious. No cheese sauce, anon. No ranch or thousand island either. If you *must*, splash a *tiny* bit of olive oil and/or balsamic over it. Eating the greens first makes you fuller faster, so you'll eat less of your carbs.

There's all the usual advice about ditching soda and chips and all that crap. If you can do it, well done. Some people find it harder to ditch because they wuv them some soft drink. Diet drinks don't have energy, but they taste funny, some people question the safety of the sweeteners and there is research that drinking diet drinks causes weight gain (They suspect it disassociates the brains sweetness=energy=full response). Try to cut back if you can't cut out.

If you look at the energy of the food you're eating, then look at the relative joy/taste/convenience you get from each of the products, it's usually easy to see what you ditch. "Hmm, I drink a can of Coke in 5 minutes and it goes STRAIGHT to my arse, and all I get is a caffiene high." Sounds like a big deal to me.

For recipes and so on... Most "diet" recipes blow. There's something seriously wrong with most of the people who specialize in making lite food... I think they bully themselves into pretending they're enjoying their food. I've lost over 30 pounds by just eating less, or choosing recipes with less energy but not diet products, or where diet isn't the goal. /CK is good for food suggestions, not so much on the recipes. Also, generic questions like "I'm fat lawl how do I lose weight ROFL oops I pooped a little" won't be as much help as "I'd like some meals based around eggs that aren't too heavy on the carbs/fat/sugar/energy". For recipes, try http://www.discusscooking.com or Apartment Therapy's "The Kitchn".
