Hey /fit/, have a few questions for everyone.

If you're a poor sonuvabitch like me at the moment, what would be a good alternative to going to the gym until I can afford to around here? Would dumbbells be a good alternative to going the gym until then?

What is more important first as a goal? Trimming the fat first, or building muscle? I've read conflicting things, such as build muscle, then trim off the fat and follow up with more muscle building, or trim the fat first, then build the muscle while maintaining your bm?

For someone coming off of a long inactive period, what kind of exercises should one be doing to get myself back into the game?

Lose weight first. Google a calculator for your ideal weight, get to it, then start eating like a cow and lifting like a bull.

Came up with roughly 130 as my weight goal. Sweet. And from what I've been skimming around here on /fit/ following up with that 7chan faq, cardio is the way to go I presume.

Any suggestions for running/jogging in a city? Coming from a reservation, kinda weird being surrounded by homes/buildings all the time. (In before teepees hurr)

Jump rope should do the trick, also count calories. Again, google a calorie intake calculator, and it'll tell you how many you need, spread that number over 5/6 small meals a day.

Yes, everything that doesn't require much equipment.

Even more sweet. Time to go ghetto and find a piece of rope or something for a simple jump rope. I really appreciate the help here. Now I just have to set a good goal deadline to trim my weight down to 128-132 range from 145, and then to follow it up with strength training after that while maintaining my goal.

There are also cheaper ways to go to a gym. Instead of paying $30+ a month, you can try looking at the Y or any community college, and schools around the area. I paid $12 for three months working out at a community college as a weight training class.
