Okay /fit/, this is my big toe. I know, I know, go to a fucking doctor. The problem is that I tried, but my doctor no longer accepts my insurance. I need to find a new one that does.

In the mean time, can I go to the hospital with this and get it taken care of? It's infected, continuously oozing blood and puss, and it throbs like a bitch. That red mass on the right isn't even blood, it's soft tissue that has swollen out around the nail. Shit's fucked up.

tl;dr can I get this taken care of at the ER or will they lol?

Here in Canada, I got my ingrown toenail done for free.

TL;DR: Move to Canada.

If all else fails, I will do that.

I want you to put that in my vagina.

Soak it in water mixed with Epsom Salt. That should clean it and reduce the swelling. Get some Neosporin or some other antibacterial ointment and rub that on afterwards and then cover it with a bandage.

You can go to the ER or a clinic and they'll take care of you. They'll probably give you a shot to numb your toe, take off the entire nail and then put you on some antibiotics. I've had this happen to me twice, and that's what they did to me both times, at separate locations.

no op, but this is relevant to my interest. they didn't give you any painkillers for that? it didn't hurt afterwards?

Go to the ER with that. They'll definitely treat you, it's the fucking law.

The problem isn't that I have to pay for it, that's fine, I can do that myself, it's that I actually need to find a place to do it soon. I guess I'm going to the ER then.

They numbed the toe when they did it, but they gave me no painkillers. It only hurts for about the first day after they do it. They bandage it up really tight as well, though I ended up taking the bandage off after the first day.

Obvious addendum: Try not to bump your toe against shit afterwards. Particularly if you remove the bandage. Hurts like a bitch.

Thread hidden. That shit looks fucking gross to look at.

I love the cat hair thats stuck in the side of the nail on the other side.

I had that exact same thing on my middle finger, OP. It went away by itself after 2-3 weeks.

i had it on my toe :( doc had to take my toe nail off

I had something similar but more puss. I took a hypodermic needle, boiled it and sucked the puss out. It went away in about a week to the point I could walk properly. Just be sure to buy gauze and use antibiotic ointments when you wrap it for the day.

Looks like a horribly ingrown toenail.
I got one in middle school, only just now got rid of it.

I had it professionally removed twice, and it grew back. I removed it myself the third time and it stayed gone. However, in its infected state, you can not remove it yourself.

Here is the best tip I have for stopping the infection and pain quickly. Buy Compound W Wart Remover, it's just Salicylic Acid. Apply a few drops to the infected area and near the infected area. I did this twice daily for a few days and was able to remove it fairly painlessly. My toe is in tip-top shape now.

DON'T HAVE THE ENTIRE TOENAIL REMOVED.

I used to have this problem years ago, if they remove the toenail, your nail will just regrow and do the same thing again months later. I HAD MY TOENAIL REMOVED THREE TIMES.

Find a doctor who will burn the nailbed. sounds worse than it actually is. it's a newer procedure.

instead of removing the entire nail, he'll cut just the side of it where it ingrows with a clipper and then apply some sort of caustic chemical burn.

shit never grew back or gave me any problems after that. RAGE AT MY OLDER IGNORANT PREVIOUS DOCTOR WHO PROBABLY USED LEECHES TO CURE DIABEETUS.

Whats different is they apply some sort of burn to the side of your nail. it prevents it from growing back there. You don't feel a thing.

>man up and squeeze that shit out problem solved

I used to cut diagonal into the nail and pull the fragment out with my fingers, like minor surgery, push around the swollen flesh and dig out the arrowhead of the nail fragment, all the while blood was rushing over my hands and toe, puss, etc into the sinks running water. Had to do this every week, or every 3 days.

I was so stupid I lived with this problem for 3 years, toe nail removal, then it'd grow back, and I'd wait a couple of months before I go see the doctor again.

If you caught some sort of infection from a pool in Chicago during the late 90's, sorry, that was me. I used to go swimming with that toe.
