I used to have a similar problem with skull crashers. Even if i took the weight lower, it still felt generally unnatural. I discovered that this was because i wasnt strong enough to do the exercise.
if it feels unnatural, discontinue the exercise, work the triceps in different ways for a couple months and go back to the exercise. if your triceps did get stronger, the exercise wont feel so unnatural. many websites classify it as a more 'advanced' tricep exercise.
i do mine lying down btw
