Does /fit/ work out solo or with a partner?

In the summer me and my bro used to go everyday, but since school started we can't find a time that would fit us both. So I haven't worked out in a month and a half. I'm thinking of starting again by myself in the mornings. Is it alright to work out solo?

Me and my bros don't go to school, because we are awesome...

True story, bros.

Alright bro, I guess that's a good excuse for just... exploding like that...

I'll talk to you later, bro.

I started out with a partner but he decided he didn't like my split and does his own thing, I do mine, we go at different times now.

Its a pain, but there usually is someone willing to spot ya.

Bro, I think you need to just calm the fuck down...

Take a step back from the keyboard, and just breathe... ok bro?

Ok, now... bro... slowly, just walk back to the computer, REMEMBER TO BREATHE HERE BRO! This is going to be a tough one... sit down, and DON'T explode again... ok bro?

Ok, now... Just be calm, and write something other than bro, BUT, while still using bro... We don't want to just go cold-turkey on this, ok bro?

I thought it might have been someone else bro, but thanks for coming forward...

And as for this other lunatic, well... He has my advice, he should heed my warning, a bro with that much pent up rage isn't any bro I want to be associated with.

Thanks for being a true bro, bro.
>> OP here Anonymous
I'm not gonna be maxing out... I'd be working with weight I could rep about 8-10 times. I guess working alone shouldn't be a problem.

Sure thing bro.

What the hell, the number wasn't even right...

Something went wrong bro, but you know what I meant.

You can get an excellent workout without maxing out.
Bro.

Serious reply, I do HIIT bymself but when I workout in a gym I ALWAYs have a partner. It helps me push myself more.

In fact, you can get a BETTER workout, if you're talking about building stength, by not maxing out.

Do a 5x5 of a routine that you could normally do a 6x5 or 7x5 of. Always leave one rep "in the chamber". This is how the russian power lifters work out. They never go to failure.
>> Anonymous
>>377031
what kind of body do you get from doing 5x5?
I'm a newfag stuck with the notion that 3x10 is always best.
>> Anonymous
>>377033

Need more info on your question, to be honest.

A 5x5 (five reps, five sets) is generally a high-weight work out designed to build muscle and strength.

If that last rep isn't at least moderately hard, then you're not lifting enough weight.

So I guess the kind of "body" you'd be getting, when talking about completely generic, non-exercise specific terms, would be a more bulky one . . . but you could always scale back if you found yourself getting bulkier than you wanted.

When you say 3x10 you're talking 10 reps for 3 sets? I don't really bother doing anything weight lifting for more than 5 reps. If you're talking about 3 reps and 10 sets, well I've heard some power lifters who do 3 rep sets but 10 seems like a lot of sets.

>>377038
I just meant 3 sets 10 reps.
Problem I can see happening with a 5x5 in my crowded gym is people getting impatient.
Sure they can go fuck themselves, but shit stinks when your stuck waiting for a station.

I got this from bodybuilding.com, would this be adequate?

>>377033
In terms of growing your eating will have more effect than your sets, granted you work hard. I gained 8 pounds doing 4x8-12 and I switched to a 5x5 based program and gained 12 more at the same speed except I was gaining strength a fuckton faster.

>>377031
i usually do 1x10, 1x11, then 1x12 (3 sets)...is this ok? i might have to change to something like this though if it's really better.

i should mention that the amount of weight i'm lifting isn't very hard for me with this schedule...i could certainly be lifting moar for the most part. i've been thinking for a while i should add weight, so i'll probably do that.

I've actually tried to make casual conversation with this guy who works at my gym and he's really, really, really, really, really hard to talk to. That's what I get for trying to be social. He probably doesn't want anybody talking to him either.

The other day this one girl was on bench press talking to her friends when I started. Half way through (30 minutes later) they hadn't fucking moved. If you want to see results you should work out solo.
>> Anonymous
>>377316
Well, that depends. If you have good, motivated friends, you can get competition going and results can be better.

But generally, people suck and are lazy/complain about anything that's hard. If you're stuck with these fools, go solo.
>> Anonymous
solo, always. i really can't stand working out with anyone, call me fucking crazy i don't care.

when i'm trying to set a PR for 1RM i don't need some tool chanting me on or yelling at me, I can do this shit on my own, if not I wouldn't be at this point. also I like to meditate between sets as it lowers heart rate faster and calms the mind. can't do that with idiots trying to talk to you all the time. sure you can tell them not to talk to you but they still make noise so fuck them

this has been brought to you by elitist anon thank you

my workouts usually take about 90 minutes, 3 times a week, and I'm a master's degree student working part time so I do't have that much time.

I'd love to find someone to work out with but my schedule is already pretty tight, and all my friends who work out seem to be doing different programs (or rather, doing everything pretty randomly from what I can tell).

I've tried getting them to use stronglifts, which is what I'm on, but they'd just rather use machines. In the words of my roommate (who goes to my gym too): "free weights are too professional"

lulz

>>377316
I can't believe some of these idiots spending more time talking and resting between sets then they do working out, and obviously these are the same fatasses that quit after a month or two because they see no results.
>> Anonymous
Theres a group of about 7 guys who mince around my gym together only using thing at a time. they can't be getting even a half arsed workout because if all of them did anymore than one rep each time they'd be in there for hours and hours. Fucking knobs.

>>377636
This is a situation where I'd probably impose myself.
I usually leave the macho bullshit out of the gym, but when a bunch of bros are hogging a station and wasting time then fuck it.

My gym has a limited amount of stations, its great and state of the art, but during rush hour you gotta act fast to get where you want to be.

I also hate people who aren't pushing all that hard yet decide to take two minute breaks between each set, while sitting at the station.
>> Anonymous
If you know what your doing then working solo is ideal.
If your a newfag who doesn't know his own limits then you might consider going with a bro so you don't kill yourself.
Then again, the faggot probably doesn't know how to spot anyways.
