Smoothies Anonymous
Sup /fit/

I drink my share of smoothies. I think I had read in a Men's Health once that replacing one meal a day with a smoothie works great for weight loss. I generally throw in 2 bananas, a cup of strawberries, blueberries, whatever. Some milk, OJ, a serving of whey powder and sometimes a little bit of redline or diet rockstar. Usually I'll drink the smoothie when I wake up in the morning and take my vitamins and whatever with it.

My question is this, is the natural sugar from all the fruit being turned to fat from the insulin spike? The smoothies taste awesome, but I'm not sure how much they're really doing for me in the way of dieting.

If you keep up physical activities, then the simple answer to your question is no.

sugar from fruit is fructose. will not raise your glucose levels as high or lead to a high insulin spike like normal white sugar would do (sucrose).
fruit is healthy, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

in general, its the PROCESSED foods you need to stay away from in terms of spiking your insulin levels.

That doesn't really answer my question. If I keep up physical activities, I'll burn off whatever fat was stored sure, but if the sugar IS automatically being stored as fat I might as well not drink them and eat something else that won't be turned to fat automatically, which would result in more of a fat loss.

Nice. Thanks for reassuring me. I guess you've never seen anyone get fat from eating too much fruit right?

dont drink a fruit smoothie, drink a glass of low fat milk. calcium helps to fight against the absorption of fats from other foods. you'll intake far less sugar and fat all round from this!

Science thinks it knows everything, just like most religions.

Fruit is good for you, just don't do something stupid like go on an all-fruit diet. Balance, moderation, etc...

both high in sugar, but glass of orange juice and strawberries in cereal is great.

Orange juice spikes it.

Take a vitamin C supplement or emergen-C .

Forget the fruit, mix the whey with skim milk.
