hey, /fit/, do any of you who wax have problems with ingrown hairs? i love the way waxing looks, but after about a week or so i start to get them and it looks worse than having hair! if anyone has had this problem and fixed it, what methods worked for you?

pic related. that's immediately after re-waxing with a handful of ingrowns, when i thought it looked the worst. but no matter what, pretty much all the way until hair has started to grow out of every pore again, i have ~10 red dots from ingrowns/the remnants of digging them out.

by the way, i'm 19, male. and for about a week i tried using a hot compress for 10 minutes 2-3 times a day on the whole area, followed by disinfecting the entire area (with hand sanitizer), and finished with application of a non-comedogenic lotion. it didn't seem to have much effect, but i'll try again when the skin is clear and i can see more obvious results.

thanks!

oh yeah, and i thoroughly scrub the area daily. and wear loose-fitting clothing, even tried going nude as much as possible..

Your skin and or hair probably just sucks.

Waxing is supposed to be the least likely method of delipidating to cause in-grown hairs and irritation.

Tell us about your hair and your skin, and also where you are removing hair from. Is your hair generally thick or thin, curly or straight? Is your skin light or dark, sensitivity, etc...

really? i was under the impression ingrowns were when the hair grows at an improper angle or isn't strong enough to pierce the outer layer of skin, which only happens if the hair is cut below the skin (or obviously if it has been pulled out). but i did read multiple explanations..

i have fairly thick, curly hair, and pretty fair skin. the area is the abdomen and pubic region, as shown in my pic.

i understand it's my skin/hair combination that is the problem.. i was hoping for a way to prevent it, with a little extra work.

thanks for the response!

If you shave too close you can get in-grown hairs for the same reason you described, but waxing is supposed to be better because when you shave the end of the hair is sharp and more likely to snag on the sides of the pore as it grows out. When you wax the new hair grows back smooth and glides back out through the pore.

Think of it like this, when your hair naturally falls out (as happens all the time) the hair that grows back to replace it doesn't become in-grown.

Your skin is probably getting so irritated from the trauma of waxing that the pores tighten/close up and make in-grown hairs more likely. You may research some waxing products that will irritate your skin less.

You may also see if plucking/tweesing gives better results (although it sucks... takes forever and hurts the whole time).

Finally, have you ever just shaved? Shaving sucked for me for the first few months, but after a while my skin became used to it and I don't get red bumps or in-grown hairs when I shave.

Oh yeah, I forgot-- how long have you been waxing? If you just started then just keep doing it. Your skin will most likely just get used to it.

Put a hot towel over the area you are shaving first. Then shave close-ish, then put another hot towel over, then shave/wax as close as you're going to go.

Never shave or wax if you are cold or have goosebumps, always use a hot towel/flannel first.

that shit will go away if you stop fucking man ass. Also, stop waxing yourself.

i've waxed off and on for about 4 months. the first time was from a professional. i can't remember how much of a problem ingrown hairs were then, but there were at least some.

how old were you when you started shaving? and how old now?

what types of waxing products are you thinking of? i use the regular, cheap, surgi brand, hard wax, and it comes with oil that reduces adhesion to the skin to pretty much nothing (if that's where the irritation would normally come from).

again, thanks for the help! :)

im with you on that brother ... i want to get this done as well. But id rather go with my girlfriend .... im sure shes down, just gotta wait for the right time to ask.

For the ingrown hair, get a lufa, like that rough sea sponge. when you shower. Scrub the pubic region with the sponge and soap. And the hand sanitizer thing is not a good idea. Think of it like this, would you put it in your eye ?

so use iodine AKA betadine. Use like salt based creams
>> Anonymous
>>365137
i do use a lufa.. :( and i REALLY scrub. what do you mean about hand sanitizer in my eye? the point is to disinfect, right? what is the iodine for? i was also thinking the hand sanitizer might have the added bonus of softening the skin.. but i'm all ears! nothing i'm doing is based on science. i'm just guessing.. from all of the research i've done, it seems that people don't usually have such a problem with this or there just aren't any solid answers.

i actually was beginning to think it was somewhat rare until i found 4chan. penis threads are pretty common here lol. so i can sit and look at how many people shave and how many have ingrown hairs. in fact, most of the pics i saw of guys with shaved pubes had exactly my problem.. some girls, too.

The reason for not using hand santitizer is because it kills 99.9% of germs. The thing is, some and a lot of germs are good for you. so after waxing you want germs, but not wet and away from dirty things. just clean it when you shower. When you use salt based creams or just salt alone it cleans up a little and forgot why but it also promotes healing to that area.
and the iodine stuff, its a salt based thing plus the iodine. Kills off the bad stuff and leaves to good germs.

use razors, CLEAN razors. witch hazel. a thick hair conditioner or a good shaving cream. never go against hair growth. shave lightly. use an exfoliating facewash after your done along with witch hazel to close the pores. rinse. apply aloe for extra post-shave conditioning.

use triple antibiotic ointment with pain reliever AKA Neosporin, I use it for popped zits to cuts on my figers.

Try shaving, let it from out a few weeks, shave, grow out a few weeks, shave, etc. you need to train the follicles/pours as you would when you want to change the part on your head, it can easily take 6 months.

Try to keep it around the base and not too far up the shaft. Test it on a smaller area first.

Late response sorry--

I started shaving the same areas that you are waxing around 17 or so. I'm 23 now.

I've been thinking about waxing though because when I shave I have to let it grow back some for about 1 or 2 weeks before I can shave again, so its only completely smooth for one or two days, and then its short hair. The short hair is still better than not shaving at all.

When you wax, how long does it take for the hair to grow back?

I can't recommend any waxing products as I've never done it.

You are gay, just put makeup on your ingrown red bumps like other gays. Enjoy your gay.

I just cut my hair with scissors really close. No itching, no redness and almost as good as shaving...

well, for me it only stays bare for about a week, when i can start seeing black dots from the hairs under the skin. then another week until the hair is long enough to wax again. the esthetician i went to said she only has to wax once every couple months! but she IS a business woman, after all.. still, i believe there is truth in the statement, "the more you wax, the less you have to." i'm pretty bad about being regular, though, so i'm not a good example.

>>365237
i'm looking into this.. i'm not sure i would put a hypertonic salt solution in my eye, either.. ;) i don't want to just clean when i shower because bacteria builds up pretty quickly in the pubic region. still.. i'm doing some research..
