Why do people say squats and deadlifts are so important?

Do they really add more than size and strength to legs? or is it just an ego thing because you can push big numbers.

they work your whole body, not just your legs. Also a strong and flexible core is important for many sports.

They hit most muscle fibres in the body but work the quads and glutes the most of all, which are the 2 largest muscles in the human body, which means they release the most amount of testosterone when worked.

Compound lifting is THE most important part of a beginner and intermediate workout. Exercises that hit as many of your muscles as possible are good for obvious reasons. The squat and deadlift are basically the two most compoundy compound lifts there are.

Try them, and if you're doing them with good form, you can feel most of your body being put into the lift.
