A couple days ago, i bought a set of free weights. I'm not overweight or out of shape, but I'd like to further tone up. I started doing some simple excersizes, but very quickly my wrist started hurting.

Is there any gear that I should get to help with this, special gloves or something? Or is it probably my technique?

Generally you shouldn't bend your wrist too much.
I assume that you hurt yourself doing bicep curls. You maybe twist your wrist in an attempt to use rotative momentum to bring the weight up.
