Bulking up is 90% down to your diet. If you want to gain muscle mass you must eat above your maintenance level so your body can use the excess calories to build muscle. I'd highly recommend oats, multivitims, omega 3 fish oils, lots of fruit and veg (preferably raw), drinking about 2.5 litres of water per day and investing in a good source of whey protein powder. Free weights are preferable because they put less stress on your body compared to machines. Keep the reps low (6-8) and do 3-4 sets of each exercise, lift as heavy as possible.
