Sup, /fit/.

ITT we discuss post-workout supplements.

After every workout, I drink 12 fl oz of lowfat chocolate milk mixed with 1/4 teaspoon creatine, 1/4 teaspoon L-glutamine, and 1/2 teaspoon L-arganine. Why?

Lowfat chocolate milk has the PERFECT ratio of fat to carbs to protein. You've probably heard that after workouts you should consume something that has a ratio of 4:1 carbs to protein with a dash of fat. Well guess what chocolate milk has?

The creatine will help heal microtrauma faster, so you'll recover quicker and be less sore. And there's only a little, so you won't get that bloated muscle feel like you would with bigger doses. The L-glutamine is vital to your joints, especially if you do HIIT or plyometrics. And L-arganine helps restore your nitrogen balance.

Now you're getting a drink that's basically Endurox R4 for a quarter of the price. That's 220 calories, 1 gram of fat, 43 grams carbs, and 10 grams protein.

I also take a multivitamin. I recommend GNC's Mega Men Sport. Get the big box, because you want to take it every day and you'll save cash per serving.

And on days when I lift, I also add a protein bar. I've found that the best for the money is Clif Builders bars. They have 260 calories per serving with 6 grams of fat, 32 grams net carbs and 20 grams protein.

The moment I get back from lifting at the gym I:

Boil three eggs
Make a bowl of tuna and mayo
Pour a huge glass of milk

I eat all that, then have another glass of milk and like a banana and an apple.

Then I have a glass of water or two, or three.

Then I take a shit and go to sleep.

You don't have a problem eating that much before you hit the rack? I try to avoid eating altogether at least three hours before I go to bed.

The shit thing was a fair time after the eating.

Hehehe.

I don't consume anything 2 hours before bed other than water. But yeh... I scarf down a good deal after a workout. I eat quite a bit about 2 hours before too.

The protein and sugar in milk is relatively slowly digested. In a post workout drink you want something better. Maltodextrin + whey > casein + lactose, any day of the week.
