I had acne/bacne/chest-acne all through high school and it cleared up on it's own.

Just buy 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, a gentle cleanser, and some moisturizer. It's the same shit.

If you've already tried other things, including meds, or have moderate-severe acne then accutane is the way to go. I did two courses of accutane, it sucks but is more than worth it.

I tried Pro-activ once a few years ago and it made my acne worse. But my skin is incredibly finnicky. What I'm doing right now with pretty good success is 2.5% Benzoyl peroxide, use witch's hazel as an astringent (86% witch's hazel, 14% alcohol), and cetaphil moisturizer. I do this in the morning and evening.

TIPS:
-Only take one shower a day, taking more can make your hair greasy and cause more breakouts
-if you don't already, start using Head and Shoulders shampoo for oily hair. The zinc is good for acne, among other good things the shampoo does.
-The washing routine works ok without witch's hazel. It smells like crap but it is VERY good for your skin and costs like $4 at CVS.
-Milk makes me breakout (something to think about)
-Foods high in refined sugar or with a high GI can cause breakouts
-drink lots of water

Food does not contribute to acne. There is no conclusive evidence of this.

Ok, I'll say this once and I'll be trolled to hell and back. I know I sound like a shithead with a shitbrain, but srsly, this works. Try it or not, I don't care.

1) Change your diet. If you have mostly whiteheads and boils, cut out dairy and fatty foods. If you have those red inflamed spots, cut out fried and spicy and hot foods.
If you have both - well, shit out of luck, cut both out.
2) Stop frying, baking and grilling your food, start boiling and steaming. If you need da meat, eat pork and duck.

Ok, now it gets crazy:
1) Piss on your hand. Rub piss on your face. This is only disgusting if you are a big whiny pussy. The chemicals in your own urine work wonders aganst inflammation (it's sterile, don't worry). It also doesn't smell (if it does, you have bigger problems than acne - moar liek dehydration)
2) After peeling and stuff, rub a cut garic clove over your skin, especially the inflamed spots and whiteheads. This will burn and desinfect. Grit your teeth. After using garlic, apply honey - this will help healing (and also desinfects). Use raw honey or as close as you can get to raw honey.
3) If you aren't man enough to do all this, close your right nostril with a finger and breathe through the left one for 10 minutes. Do this as often as you like per day (obviously more often if you have BAD acne).

Don't believe me? I had bad acne, nothing helped, I am now practically acne free - if I only could stay away from spicy, fried food :\

Don't knock it till you try it. In b4 flames.

I've read that garlic can help clear scars. I'm thinking of trying it on my acne scars.

So your saying that if I were to go drink a glass of milk I wouldn't have a horrible acne breakout the next day? I'm glad you know my body better than I do. Drinking water doesn't affect your skins health? The way you eat doesn't affect your body's health?

You're saying that the Archive of Dermatology is incorrect?

You can get the article straight from the archive of dermatology website, but they cost money.

I was able to get the article (college library website + I'm awesome). It's just an editorial comparing two tribal cultures to western society claiming that they have no acne since they eat no processed food or dairy. Yes, because genetics couldn't possibly be a reason for that. it's important to point out that question the article is not to outright say that the Archives of Dermatology is wrong. The Archives of Dermatology is just a journal and just because an article is published in it does not mean it represents their position on the subject. Furthermore, since it's only an editorial, it is not held up to the same peer review that research articles are held up to.

Conclusive Evidence = Several DOUBLE BLIND CONTROL studies affirming the hypothesis without conflicts of interest. Also, because research tends to show no correlation between diet and acne, stating that diet has an effect on acne is an extraordinary claim. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.

>The way you eat doesn't affect your body's health?

Nice strawman argument retard

I'd like to add that it would be awesome if this shit was true. I wouldn't have had horrible acne when I was a teenager. I hate dairy and grains and I hardly ever eat them. If this were true, everyone would stop eating dairy and grains. Why bother with accutane if all you had to do is change your diet?

I found that drinking a gallon of water a day, tanning, fixing my diet(google what to avoid), and exercise far, FAR more effective than any chemicals I put on my face.

Do you know what a strawman argument is? You claim that what you eat doesn't effect your acne. What you eat effects your skins health, your skins health effects your acne.

Either way, you're right. I'm going to trust you over my personal experience, articles, and dermatologist.

It doesn't effect everyone the same way homeslice. The argument with milk is that it's the hormones that can cause breakouts. With high GI foods I believe it's that it causes spikes in blood glucose levels.

apparently you don't know what a straw man argument is.
