So I have a knee problem, on the negative of squats I get really bad knee pain after hearing a pop and feeling like something has gone where it shouldn't have.

I can do ATG squats OK as I am able to drop into them and power back up, but pistols and parallel squats which require a controlled movement, hurt my knee really badly.

I went to the knee surgeon(who's an idiot, he tolled me to do leg presses and forget about squats) he couldn't tell me what was going on.

Please help.

post a video of yourself doing squats

1- you might be squatting incorrectly

2- you might have a pre-existing condition, like a muscle tear, acl tear, tendon problems

what? don't ever drop into squats.

popping is heard a lot when you squat, especially going heavy- its nothing to be worried about, obviously the pain is a big issue. reduce the weight and make sure you are squatting correctly

eg: download starting strength and read how to squat.

My form is correct, by drop I don't literally mean drop but there is far less pressure going down, then holding a position.

On my left knee, to the top left of the knee cap, as I squat down I can feel stuff cracking, then once I get to parallel it feels like something pushes out and it hurts. If I apply pressure with my hand while squatting, I can feel it still but the pain is significantly reduced.

My squats are correct, it has nothing to do with my squat, its a knee problem.

I just have no idea what the problem is.

I'd probably stop doing squats for a few weeks/months and see if it gets any better. Probably better not to risk fucking your knee up in the long term for bigger legs in the short term.

you stupid 'hardcore' retard.

Actually, I have shitty knees myself. Anything I could do to tone them up and whatnot without fucking them over moreso? And avoiding pain?

Squats arn't bad for your knees.
Go see a physical therapist, doctors and other physicians just guess and have no fucking clue. There are a lot of stabilization exercises and things he can prescribe. Give one a call and explain the problem and see if he knows first though.

your VMO might be weak, causing your kneecap to track laterally when you bend your knee

do you get knee area pain when you run?
