Best way to work on abs is supposedly the squat (weighted, that is, unless you have a very big head)

Best way to work on abs is to loose fat.

There is a HUGE misconception that you can do enough crunches or whatever to get a six pack. No no no.

You have to loose fat. People with six packs have often less then 10% body fat. Its really hard and for some impossible.(and you cannot just loose fat from your one area, you can only loose fat from your entire body)

But if your just asking for ab exercises, bicycle crunches are amazing,

Oh heavens, I don't want a disgusting six pack, just a flatter tummy and waist.

well...loose fat. Your body is your body, it is how it is. You can be fat, you can be skinny, you can be average, you can be toned, w/e.

just dont have misconceptions on how fat is lost

lol i wouldn't recommend doing squats if you don't have a good core.

Now, I know diet is the number one thing by far when it comes to how to lose weight/fat, but does exercise help you lose fat as well?

I know this is a really nub question but I've never gotten a good answer.

exercise burns energy (calories).
If you do not eat more calories than you burn by exercising, your body will burn fat to get energy.
Burning fat will reduce your weight.
By exercising you also build muscle.
Which weigh more than fat.

fat is the stored energy reserve of your body.
You have to trick your body into using this reserve.

Well, you'll never believe it, but the best way to get abs is so simple, you'll wonder why you didn't think of it.
I have a 6 pack now. It didn't take long to get either.
I experimented with those ab crunch things and ab wheels EVERY DAY for a long time. I did lots of crunches with minimal results.
Here's the secret: Normal sit ups. Nothing fancy, just find something to lock your feet under and do sit ups. Try to work your ways up to 100 a day in one sitting.
Part 2: I agree with the other guys that reducing your fat is the other thing you need to do. Swimming worked really well for me, and that alone may have give me a six pack. It really seems to work the abs even though it doesn't seem like it. Running worked for my friend who was heavy and now has an 8 pack.
Probably anything that makes your abs sore is good for them.
Good luck. You just have to be dedicated.

if you do any situps then incline situps are the way to go.

Alright, what's a bicycle crunch?

diet is NOT number one, diet is if anything, equal to or less than working out. if all you do is diet, then at most you'll lose a few pounds, then gain it back afterwards

forget where i got these quotes, but whatever, its true anyway :P

"To lose body fat, you must create a calorie deficit. There is no other way. A
calorie deficit means that you burn more calories than you consume every day. There are
two ways you can create this calorie deficit: 1) decrease your caloric intake from food, or
2) increase the amount of calories you burn through exercise."

"Paradoxical as it may seem, the secret to fat loss is to allow yourself to eat more
(of the right foods) and use exercise to burn off the fat. Ironically, most people do the
opposite: They slash their calories to starvation levels and exercise little or not at all. This
slows the metabolism, decreases lean body mass and invokes the body’s starvation
response. Exercise allows you to create the calorie deficit and burn fat without slowing
down the metabolism."

do the crunch, hold the position. raise legs and start cycling your legs in the air.

Agreed. I went from barely being able to do 5 to doing 20 in a row, and my nonexistent abs are now bulgy and easy to feel through the skin. Too bad there's fat over them :P
>> Anonymous
Crunches and situps, plain and simple. Most people have adequate abs, but there is so much fat covering them you can't see them. However, doing situps won't get rid of the fat. You CAN'T spot train to get rid of fat in certain areas, you have to get rid of all around. Nice abs won't start to show probably until you are around 10% body fat or so.

Guys, when I do sit-ups it's usually pretty slow.
I need to be able to do situps pretty quickly for ROTC.
Any tips on increasing my sit-up speed?
>> Anonymous
>>4972
Uhm, lose more fat so you aren't lifting as much weight.

As in, do more situps and workouts in general.
>> Anonymous
>>5001
I forgot to mention I'm not fat.
I guess I'll just continue to do more sit-ups.
>> Anonymous
>>5020
do weighted sit ups. after you get used to doing them, get rid of the weights and bingo! it's like rock lee vs gaara
>> Anonymous
get 12% body fat or something within that range, then you get your abs.

Hey, the OP's pic has the same problem as me. They're fucking misaligned. My sixpack is a five-and-a-half pack.

STOP SAYING "LOOSE."

Or be genetically cursed and have no cut lines at 10% like me.
>> Anonymous
Abs are made in the kitchen, you need single digit BF%. But decline weighted situps are great.
>> Anonymous
>>6113

I have that misalignment, too! Fucking hate it. Is it supposed to be genetic or does stuff like that happen during development or something?

I too am horribly ashamed of my crooked abs.

I don't know why they are like that though
>> Anonymous
>>6147
>>6177

Well, fuck! What do we do about it? I'm worried that if I excercise, they'll just become big in addition to being misaligned, highlighting the problem.

Not everyone looks good with their abs showing. Usually you have to do some kind of special workout to get them to bulge out like ops pic. Sometimes its impossible to get em to show cause you cant get the last bit of fat off your stomach for them to show. It doesnt mean your strong if you have your abs showing btw, most strong people have a belly
