Alright /fit/, I've been lifting weights lately, mostly on machines, which are fine. Now, when I try doing free weight dumbbell lifts, my left shoulder gives out way too easily on butterfly curls or bench press. I am right handed, and I realize my left arm is weaker, but the amount of weight it takes is ridiculous. We're talking ~20 pounds makes my left shoulder pop and crack, then just fail and drop, but I can do 40 pounds on my right arm.

Is there a problem with my shoulder that needs to be checked out, or do I just need to work with less weight until I can catch up to my right arm? It actually pops and feels close to dislocation, but I don't know if I'm just over-taxing the muscle or if it's a medical problem.

Giraffes are plant eaters, are they not? How on Earth would one get that large? I'm calling shop on this.

I'd say you're stupid. Get it stronger. If it continues, see a doctor.

Yes, it hurts a little, just to the point that I have to let the weight down.

I'll do that.

OP, I'm not trolling you when I say this...you're too weak to be using weights because you lack joint strength. Common mistake with beginners. Put the weights down, and do body weight exercises until you are sufficiently strong enough for the weights (like, in a month at least)--the range of motion is much more natural and will greatly strengthen your joints and muscles, and you will find you don't have this cracking problem anymore. You are over-taxing your *joint*.

"We're talking ~20 pounds makes my left shoulder pop and crack, then just fail and drop, but I can do 40 pounds on my right arm."

your fucking lying. 40 pounds on one arm and about 20 on the other? no.
