So, I've been toying with the idea of getting into yoga.

Do any of you mis/fit/s do yoga? Is it awesome?

also, I don't really feel like tooling it up and going to classes or doing yoga with other people, so is it possible for me to do it effectively in the comfort of my own room?

I love yoga and think just about anyone that does weights should take it up, to gain good flexibility.
If you have a proper mat then you should be able to do yoga at home, no problem. Instructional tapes are pretty easy to follow.

Yoga is awesome for flexibility. There are some basic stretches that you can get into, but if you're serious then you should seek instruction for the more advanced positions. There's a good basic how-to on about.com, and there is some sexy, sexy inspiration on youtube: look for "Tara Stiles Yoga."

cool
about how much are mats?
and do those tapes come in DVD format?

Also, how long do you do it for in a day?

i downloaded "yoga for dummies" and it gives you 12 of the basic yoga poses that are good to get started with!

You can do it at home, just find a clean space big enough for you to move freely.

But, IMO you should try to get in a class. It's more fun when you do it with other people, the instructor can correct your position when you do it wrong and if you pay in advance it forces you to keep practicing it.

Yoga is awesome, I'm doing Hatha; my flexibility has improved greatly and I no longer have trouble breathing.

Give yourself time, remember that it's not a contest and try to enjoy it.

well, I'm not sure how thoroughly I'm intending to do this (I'm still just toying with the idea); maybe if I just start on it at home, I'll get the urge to take classes or something.

I took a Yoga class at my college, and was in 2 of the instructor's yoga videos. I needed mad credits so I had 4 other wellness classes, and I don't think they would have went as well without the stretching yoga added to the workout regimen. Shit's good for cardio/stamina

yes, it's awesome. i've been practicing for a few years.

although you can follow a tape or book, it goes much deeper than that. you really need a good teacher eventually.

there's many different styles and ways to teach, tho. Find a studio and try different classes.

Even in a class, it's not like "doing it with other people". You are focused on yourself. You can always do it at home to supplement...

i thoroughly suggest you try it out.

I went to yoga classes for a couple of months. I only stopped when I switched gyms. I found it very relaxing, and it helped my flexibility.

Do you have cable? On the Oxygen channel there's an hour long yoga show called Inhale and it's really great for beginners. It's much easier to learn from that then, say, a book. Fitness TV also has multiple yoga shows but I've never tried those. Exercise OnDemand has a lot of yoga stuff on it too. Also, look to see if your library has exercise DVDs... if they do, then they'll surely have a selection of yoga DVDs for you to try.
