Interval training is supposed to be difficult. If it's not difficult and tiring, you're doing it wrong.
I ran my first marathon about three weeks ago, and this weekend I did some interval training and I had to stop after five minutes of 30 seconds sprinting, 30 seconds jogging.
But you for - it's probably just better for you to do short distance running - i.e. run between 3 and 4 miles and just try to get faster at running that distance as time goes by.
