Sup, mis/fit/s.

I recently decided that, after spending my childhood sitting at a desk, I'm sick of being fat and am ready to start getting in shape. I'm 19, 6'1, and weigh around 230 pounds (all fat, no muscle here.)

I've completely cut the following:
Soda - using this as a broad term, covers soda, gatorade, etc. Pretty much living on water and tea.
Junk food - chips, fried food, frozen food like pizza rolls tv dinners etc.
Fast food

I have a ton of free time so I've been working out 7 days a week. I don't have a set routine yet but I usually do 1-2 hours of cardio on the treadmill then a random amount of time with free weights (mixed.)

I think the cardio is going to destroy me. I've been so out of shape that when I first started I couldn't even finish a mile in under 15 minutes. I've gotten much better but it's still tough.

So, I have a few questions:

1)
Drinks: stuff with nutrition and low in sugar.

Milk is common, or protein powder mixes.

2) No, you'll get used to it. Start your workouts with a warmup though - walk before you jog before you run, do light weight sets of your planned exercises.

If you keep at what you're doing, even if you don't eat the healthiest, simply cutting out those three junk foods will be a big improvement. You'll likely lose weight at a very steady pace if you keep it up.

Make sure you get enough sleep too, you need it to recover.

Thanks for this.

I think I've been eating pretty healthy, I just didn't want to list ALL the stuff I cut so I went with the worst ones.

Prepare for 5 metric tonnes of bullshit from the vegan-fags.

>> 1) What is there I can drink other than just water and tea? I'm guessing nothing?

Fruit juices, but you'll want to keep that down to maybe a glass a day. Drink lots of water. No tea save for maybe a glass of green tea. Stay away from "sports" drinks and shit like that, it's not good for starting out.

>> 2) If most of my day is spent at a desk (work, not gaming) will the cardio fuck my body up due to sitting for long periods then doing extraneous exercise?

I sit for 8 hours a day myself, so I understand your concerns. No, it wont. Start out with cardio (20 to 30 minutes) to start with, maybe four days a week. Move up to six days a week until you hit your first plateau, then add some weight training.

>> 3) What kind of results should I expect to see?

Probably the first month you'll see a big drop, then it'll start to level off. You'll probably hit several plateaus on your way to get your weight down but don't be freaked out about it. Keep at it and you'll see what you are looking for.

1) just drink water. eventually, flavored drinks won't be that vice in the back of your mind that you can't give up.

3) you won't look thin right away, but you will definitely see muscles developing and shaping through the fat, and it can be a huge motivator.

a big piece of advice: don't check your weight too often. once a month, maybe.

also don't do more than an hour of cardio a day.

>also don't do more than an hour of cardio a day.

Not OP: just wondering, why? As I figure, the more the better as long as your joints can take it?

It will end up taking it's toll on your body in the short term (2 months) and discourage most people. It does this because after 60 minutes of cardio the body tends to start to burn muscle and not fat.

everywhere I read fitness articles, there's the 1 hour rule of thumb. plus, it's easy to get too overzealous when you start an exercise regimen. you don't want to get sick of it too quickly if you expect to make it a lifestyle.

Drink lots of Matcha green tea. It's overall an amazing drink for just about everything in your body, including weight loss. Check out: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=146

Matcha is simply a stone-ground version of green tea, and is a metric fuckton more potent. Also it's so much easier to make as it's just powder you add to hot (75-80C) water. Add a bit of honey as well :3

So i assume that i just need to start the workout.
Ive never been one for soda, i find it utterly disgusting, i don't eat junk food (stuff mentioned in his list) and the closest i come to regular junk food is a pizza once every 2 months...also i find that lately i dont even want to eat so i basically eat once a day and thats like dinner xD but i know this is bad which is why i have to change it.
My issue is that I'm lazy as fuck and once i wake up in the morning I'm on WoW or /b/ o.o
I'm 6'4 endomorph (A male endomorph is heavy set, stocky, and naturally strong (picture an ox), and i weigh 290lbs

Hmm, I've dedicated an hour and a half to working out every single day, and so far I've just been running it since I don't have any huge idea on how to weight lift (With any progressional success anyways). I think I'll take a look around at common weight lifting routines, see if I can match any up with my time alloted.

Good luck OP, remember always the most important thing is dedication and motivation, stay focused and you will see results in 3 month.
