doing squats with heavy weight can be dangerous.

doing squats with nothing but your bodyweight, or a 45 pound bar, or an amount equal to or less than your bodyweight isn't really all that dangerous.

Not bad advice for beginners, but once you've gotten the correct form down, the extra weight's not going to kill you (unless you start dicking around with it, in which case you deserve to get fucked up.)
