About reps Anonymous
Hello /fit/

I do crunches, squats and various upper body exercises using weights pretty much every day at home.
However, I only do a single rep so to speak.
35-40 crunches in one go for example, then move on to squats.

Question: is it fine to just do the exercise in one go or should I do 2-3 reps?

...wat?

Reps are repetitions of an exercise. Example, the pushup, you go down and up, thats one rep.

Sets are a certain number of repetions done in one sitting. Example, you do 20 repetitions of pushups and stop, thats one set.

I try to aim for 6-12 repetitions on upper body exercises and 8-20 repetitions on legs and 20-40 repetitions on abs.

Also I do 3-4 sets per body part.

They're called 'sets'.

OP here.
Replace reps with sets.
Then my post makes sense I guess.

Sorry for Anon.

*Sorry Anon.

I just can't write properly today.

I think the real question is, how do you feel the next day(s)?

If your muscles feel like they've been properly worked, then one set is enough. Odds are that they don't, and you should be doing additional set(s) if you want to build muscle.

You've almost got it. Finish one exercise at a time in sets of 3. If you can do more than 12 reps in an exercise, you need to up the weight until you can do 6-8 reps. 3 sets of those and then you can move to the next exercise.

Forgot to mention, calfs and abs need about 20-30 reps in a set. Also, rest time of around 60 seconds between sets and the "5 second rule" between reps. That means you take 2 seconds to "push" the weight and 3 seconds to bring it back down. Momentum is your enemy!

Your goals will dictate your methods, OP, but definitely you need to progress past a single set of a few bodyweight exercises.

Here's one I used to when I didn't have a gym: grab a deck of cards and assign an exercise to each suit. Flip a card and do as many reps as the card's value (face cards are ten.) Quit when you run out of cards or you can't finish the exercises.
