Hey /fit/.

I am losing weight steadily, but I am worried about loose skin in the stomach area. I know a lot of people get it after losing a substantial amount of weight. My question, is there any way of getting rid of loose skin before it appears? For example, if I do crunches everyday, will I still get it?

I currently do weight training three times a week, but very little cardio.
>> Anonymous
You'll have to wait and see if the skin recovers, doing crunches won't get rid of the extra skin.
Sadly you might have to get it surgically removed if it doesn't appease you, the other choice is just to fill yourself up with muscle.

The skin is there to stay.
Basically you have two options.
Build an obscene amonut of muscle on your back, obliques and abs - OR - abdominoplasty.

I myself had to do the surgery as no amount of training could ever fill out my waist.

Everyone who loses a ton of weight gets loose skin? Please tell me this is not true.

Or tell me that it can recover.

not everybody, but i lost 120 pounds and i had a lot of excess skin. i had abdominoplasty.

If you are very fat then you have high chances of it happening, and the older you get rid of the higher the chances will be. Also what affects that is how long you've been in that shape.

BTW, if I remember right testosterone can help you get rid of fat cells (those are the things that cause your skin to be like that). I'm not sure if a doctor would prescribe you with testosterone for that or if you are willing to use testosterone, but it might be something to look at and research.

Depends on how much weight you lose.

Like the other guys are saying, it all depends on how much you weigh at the start and how much you intend to lose.

If you're mostly fat at 300+lbs and you go and lose 100+lbs, then you're far more likely to have this occur than someone losing 30lbs off of 180lbs.

The higher the % of weight you intend to lose off of a larger base, the higher your likelihood of having the extra skin.

Part of it is genetics of course, but most likely if you intend to shed a substantial amount of your body weight and you're pretty fat, you will run into this problem.

Sorry, but no. If the fluctuation in weight was over a fairly short period, then it is possible you can get away with it.
The problem arises when you gain much weight and the skin stretched to acommodate the new mass. First the fibrous tissue in the skin is damaged and looses its elastic property, then the skincells start to divide to create more skin to allow further growth.
It's like buying new clothes when you gain weight; nothing short of tailoring or buying a whole new wardrobe will make the clothes fit "right" after you loose the weight.

Nothing, except liposuction, gets rid of fatcells.
The number of fatcells are more or less constant throughout the life og a person.
If we are nitpicking, then yes; you can actually grow NEW fatcells. But only 1-2% of the hundreds of thousands of fatcells has the ability to divide itself.

FUCK
FUCK
FUCK

Well, so much for losing weight and getting a a GF soon after I'm done. Loose skin'd probably make her vomit.
>> Anonymous
>>100526
Yeah, that is pretty fucked up.
But the reason I do not have a girlfriend - even after loosing a tonn and having had the abdominoplasty, is more to do with me and my stupid insecurities than anything else. meh.

>>100529

My advice to you is to get strong. Get stronger than anyone at your gym and your insecurities are gone. Happened to me, has happened to a lot of other people. Something changes in you when you can move beastly weights.

>>100524
Actually, by simply just not eating as much, I have lost around 50 Lbs. of fat (fatcells.)
>> Anonymous
>>100532
I don't think you lose the fat cells. It's the stuff that is inside them that you lose.
>> Anonymous
>>100532
No, you haven't.
You have used the fat contained within the fatcells for fuel.
The number of cells is constant.

Just be glad that loose skin in the stomach is all you have to worry about.

As a chick who's lost significant amounts of weight (100 lbs - from 230 to 130 in about a year), I have some loose skin on my stomach, but I really kind of lucked out there. No, the big problem is that for us girls, that kind of weight loss totally fucks up your tits. In a "you don't even want to know what they look like" way. I'm looking at having to have not one but two reconstructive surgeries over the summer to fix the mess the weight loss made of mine.
>> Anonymous
I'm 15, started at 273, am now 230, and am looking to get to 160-150 ( 5'8 )

I've been fat pretty much all of my life. Do you think that the skin will become extra loose or recover?

I have a question, if you get an abdominoplasty - afterwards, can you still get a sixpack by training and dieting? What about if I need to get one, then start putting on mass - will I tear my own flesh too pieces with muscle growth? That would be awesome, but this is a serious question.

lose the weight slowly to keep skin from looking like your dad's nuts.
>> Anonymous
>>100548
it's not the weight loss that did it to you. It was gaining weight in the first place. If you had never been so fat, you wouldn't be having this problem now.
>> Anonymous
How old are you, OP? It's not so bad if you're younger.

Also, drink water. Lots of it. It helps with the elasticity of your skin. Also also, do crunches, but don't expect miracles. If you're losing a shit-ton, you'll probably need to have some cosmetic surgery done.
>> Anonymous
>>100641
You could lose the weight over the next 100 years and it would not matter. The excess skin is there to stay and is permanent, unless one undergo the surgery to correct it.
>> Anonymous
>>100580
Yes for the sixpack, no for the tearing :)
I already have a "fourpack". It's been 15 days since my surgery and I'm swollen and bloated as hell above and below the surgery scar, and I have a lot of healing to do until I really see the final result - but just like everyone else, as long as you drop down to single digit fat percentages the abs will show.

>>100682

Thank you very much for the reply, and congrats man!

How big is the scar? It shouldn't be too bad with SCIENCE these days. Besides I dig scars and so do chicks, so I won't be bummed when I get it.
>> Anonymous
>>100686
The scar is pretty big, but hell, I'll take a scar any day over the mess I had before the surgery!
I goes from hipbone to hipbone. Check out pictures of guys that are REALLY cut. It more or or less follows the same lines you naturally have below the obliques and down across the pubis.
>> Anonymous
Supposedly the loose skin is just excess fat. Is that true, /fit/?
>> Anonymous
>>100856

Actually, when you're fat your skin stretches to accommodate it. Unfortunately, when you lose that weight the skin doesn't stretch back.

Go south of the border, get it done there. Will be cheaper. Just as safe, and you can have a nice holiday with cash to spare.

oh man... is that you in the pic OP ? how much did you weigh before and after?
>> Anonymous
>>100502
it will always be there unless you get it surgically removed. theoretically, if you bulked up and filled out with a shit ton of muscle, it could look almost normal.

but wtf fag, did you just diet and not exercise at all? you have no visible muscle
>> Anonymous
>>101028
Don't do this. You can get really gross infections and the staff won't take care of you. I read about people getting horrible, life-threatening infections from going south of the border to get surgery and they let people lie in their own filth for days. It's not worth it.

It depends on the hospital, and how much you're willing to spend.

A great hospital here should be cheaper than a regular american hospital.

>>100893
Suck my dick you fucking faggot.

I know this is BAWWW, but I can''t believe that after losing one thing that makes me unattractive to women, I'll get stuck with something else that disgusts anyone that wants to fuck me. Or I can pay 1000000000000 for a surgery. God fucking damn it.
>> Anonymous
>>101374
Sucks to be USAnian.
My surgery was free!
And even if I had not qualified on medical grounds for the surgery, and had to pay for it my self, it would have been something like $7500. Not really that costly. It is a matter of prioritizing.
>> Anonymous
>>100862

sigh, yes it DOES.

It. however. cannot keep up when you loose a huge amount of weight at once. I'm guessing if that's op, he went on something like Atkins making lose silly amounts of weight.

If he had just done a normal diet and lost a few lbs a week, a 300lb fatass can have normal skin

NO THEY FUCKING CAN'T!

>>101385
And I'm guessing you believe in intelligent design as well.
I don't care what you believe as long as you do it waaaay over there.
I on the otherhand KNOW how things work.
I lost the weight at a very leisurely pace over aprox 11 months, and then lived with my fucked up skin for 4 years before I had the surgery done.
No 11 months, 11 years or fucking 11grams a DAY makes any difference - the lose skin is a fucking guaranteed result of significant weightloss any which way you do it.

OP, is it JUST skin or has it got fat under it?

If it feels like the skin on the back of your hand, you're boned...surgery time.

If it feels like there's a bit of fat under it get your body fat percentage right down but keep up your water and carb intake while doing it.

Also, try brushing the skin with a bristle brush upwards. Sounds odd but it can break up the lattice of fat under the skin somewhat and cause it to firm up somewhat. Not a magic cure but it will help to a degree.
