So I'm going to start biking in a couple days, as I'm getting a new bike tomorrow.
Question is which bike should I get?
Range around $300 or so, anyone have some suggestions?

Make sure you take it off some sweet jumps.

i have a CCM and its not one of the greatest bikes ever. like a mountain bike but its a great workout. personally i dont care what bike it is or how much it cost's just if it can get the job done

fair enough, I just want to make sure I don't pick the one model that will break two days after I buy it.

that is also true. well what i look for in my bikes is something thats extremely reliable and cheap. It sound like a shitty deal but i dont care how it looks, i care if it works

There comes a point though when you have to shell out more cash for something thats reliable. I wouldn't want a bike that cost £70 or whatever they cost cheaply these days, i'd rather push the boat out and get something that will do the job well.

You'll want decent equipment on it instead of the cheap looking stuff (because it's heavier and not engineered as well), and preferably an aluminium frame

Mountain biking or road biking? Big difference.

300 dollar will get you only a decent used bike.
A good new bike will cost at least 1000 dollar and no, there is no way around.
A good roadbike: Alu frame in your size + ultegra.

check out bikeforums.net

If only for the sake of getting useful advice. Not that /fit/ doesn't come through with it once in a while, but you're probably better off digging through the archives of a forum devoted to cycling.

If you're not exhausted, covered in sweat, and filthy when you get home, you didn't do it hard enough.
