Hey /fit/. I've gotten bored of running laps around a high school near where I love.

How much better would it be to start running through the woods with trails in it. A friend said I'd be an idiot for doing it and its 'safer' to run on a track. He's basically saying it's not worth the 'risk'.

I assume he is full of shit, but whats your take on running in the woods vs. running on a track?

"Risk" of what? Bears? Rape? Alien abduction?

From what I got out of it, tripping over shit, wrecking your ankle from all the uphill and downhill trails.

Kinda depends on where you live/what kind of terrain your planning on running around in. Also, having strong bones and joints is probably important. Honestly though, I doubt you'll run into any of the "risks" your friend is talking about. I grew up in Colorado and my family was way into hiking so by now I've run up and down pretty much every mountain path around here and I have yet to run into any real danger. If you're worried about tripping or injuring yourself, don't be. A couple of scraped knees are no big deal, just watch where you're going. I've twisted a few ankles, fallen down a bunch and tripped over a very small cliff once (I wasn't looking where I was going... don't ask. My family couldn't stop laughing at me for like 15 minutes) and have yet to see any lasting injury. And if you're worried about wildlife, again, don't be. Bears are more afraid of you that you are of them... The bears where I lived were always such pussies. My dad could run them off our land with a big stick. Mountain lions are also pussies too (haha pun?) because I've only seen one in the wild my entire life and it was gone in like 2 seconds.

It's fun to do but I wouldn't do it all the time unless the trails you're going on are cleared. You can twist an ankle real easily, trip on a root, slip on leaves that have mud underneath, etc...

They are mostly cleared, but lots of sticks and such all over the paths.

I think the tripping/ankle problems were what he was referring to, and wildlife is not an issue.

humans have been running on uneven ground for more years than im willing to type, your friend is a little bitch with weak ankles.

do it up man

i laughed at the responses so far

I run trails in the Adirondacks and Catskills (Can't really run because of the elevation gain and also the fact that the ground is either all rocks or all roots and you have to maneuver, not to mention streams and bridges), and I've only once fell and that's because I was going down a rock face and it was wet and I just kept sliding and ended up on my ass, no injuries.

I guess if you think you're going to trip on rocks and roots and other obstacles you're probably right, just like if you go up to the bar with any doubt in your mind about lifting it you won't, the mind controls all
