I've been working out for about a year now after inactivity, and I personally have found that I'm fine with anything, except actual running. I feel pretty similar to the OP.
I can do pretty good on anything else, but I think it's the impact factor or something, cause I get running (treadmill or outside) and my body is just like 'dude. no.'
Are you a bigger (taller) guy OP? I am and I think that might be it.
