Since the OP doesn't seem to know much about nutrition, I should probably note that whole grains are slow(er) releasing, and advise him to stay away from processed grains (white bread, white pasta, etc), sugars (ESPECAILLY processed (table) sugar.), starchs (potatoes, corn, etc) You also might want to try eating stuff with more fibre, like whole grains, lentils, yellow split peas, green leafy fiberous vegetables (for general health too).
Also, don't drink soy milk, too much estrogen.
Just curious, what are you eating for breakfast? IMPORTANT: IF YOU DON'T EAT BREAKFAST, FUCKING START EATING IT, IT'S THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY. Also, if possible, try eating more frequent, smaller meals instead of 2-3 larger meals. (Like, eat a meal every 3 hours, but remember since you're eating more meals you need to decrease the size.)
I also suggest you read about general nutrition and how certain types of nutrients are digested and how they release energy, so you can choose the optimal type of energy to be consuming depending on the situation.
These drum-sticks you speak of, are they breaded? If so, white or whole wheat flour? Or is there sauce on them? Or just nothing?
