Hey /fit/. Who here is on/has been on a low/no-carb diet? How did you fare with it and how effective did you think it was?

I'm currently on like the 6th day of being on one

i lost weight with a low carb diet.

it works, but i didn't enjoy it and wouldn't recommend it. i was a lot happier and healthier doing the negative calorie diet. it's not even a diet at this point as i'm content eating and living with it as a regular eating habit.

I lost about 50 pounds on a no carb diet. During that time I was constipated as hell and constantly lethargic.

feels good man

It works, but you'll be tired as crap.

Interesting. Weight loss is obviously my goal, but what I did was workout for like 6 months to get a desirable muscle mass (fatty here) and now I'm losing all the fat so I can reveal that muscle.

Sounds good? Yes no?

I've been on and off the low carb diet for a year now. I was 210 pounds 1 year ago, I'm 168 now.

I was on a super low carb diet(from 0 - 50 carbs per day)
Pros: I lost 60 pounds in 3 months
Cons: you get a carbcrash for a whole week.
you lose a lot of muscle

Getting fit if you're fat, in two steps:

1. Eat a balanced diet with a conservative caloric deficit.

2. Exercise.

Please direct all profits from the multi-billion dollar weight loss industry to me in the future, thanks.

Yeah I realise this. My friend described it as two steps forward one step back sort of thing

Also, you guys who lost weight on the diet, how much cardio did you do while on the diet?

I did a low carb diet for six months and lost over 70 lbs on it. At the same time, my lifts went up and I got under an 8-minute mile for the first time in my life.

You have to know how you will respond to going low carb before you do it. If you're the right type, you'll have fantastic results. If you're not, you'll be in a shitty mood for the week it takes you give it up.

I was running 2-4 miles a day and doing 90+ minutes of weight training on a 3 on/1 off schedule.

I'm in one.
Have lost 15kgs in 6 months with barely no cardio, only weights.
Just a tip. I started to lift heavier, had more energy, lost weight faster after I included a carb load day every 3 days. Don't go without carbs for too long, I was like that 3 months I could have reached my goal last month if I included the carb load from the beggining
>> well fuck your shit !SvVHiVQG4I
>>343061
No, you.
>> Anonymous
>>343066
Hmmm, interesting. How does the carb loading affect your weight loss?
>> Anonymous
>>343077
When I started my diet all my lifts either staled or went weaker.
I had very little energy, specially to do cardio.
After 3 months I was completely destroyed and took a week off to rethink my plan.
I read again the Tom Venuto book because it had a chapter dedicated to low carb diets.
It said that a carb loading was necessary because low carb diets are great but they destroy the metabolism after a while, and all the symptoms he listed I had it. You need to cheat your body with carb loading to make it think everything is normal.
So I started with the carb loading and as I said, my lifts returned to normal and progressing a lot. Never feel tired. Lose weight faster. Don't know the real reasons, but it has worked for me and I stick to it.

What was your weight before you started?

6' 90 kgs in March
Today is around 75kg, planning to cut until I reach 70kgs, I'm becoming really thin and my sixpack doesn't appears

I don't really know. I was eating 3000+ calories/day, always full, didn't have any of the bad side effects I was warned about (except maybe ketosis breath, but I was eating a shitload of garlic anyway,) and the weight came off.

I think the biggest benefits are with the appetite suppression, but I honestly believe there are people for whom low-carb is just how their bodies work.

>>343111
One last bit: I was carb loading on weekends. 5-6000 calories daily, and I was just shoveling in all the shitty food I could get my hands on to make it up. I remember putting McNuggets in my seven-layer burrito at one point.

Low carb is win.

I've lost over 45 pounds so far this year. I work out 4 days a week and I appear to have retained most of my muscle mass and strength. My appetite has diminished dramatically. Recent blood work came out very good. The only thing is my bad cholesterol is borderline high, but it's better than it was last year.

Just watch your fibre, watch what kind of fats you take in, and exercise regularly.

Thanks for the info guys, keep it coming.

Also, you two
>>343111
>>343087
were you doing an extra high intensity workout before your carb loading days to deplete all your muscle gyclogen, or what?
>> Anonymous
>>343131
When you say watch your fibre, what do you mean? And what kind of fats should I avoid?
>> Anonymous
>>343150
>When you say watch your fibre, what do you mean?
Make sure you're getting enough. Most people don't eat enough and when you're going low carb you can easily go days without eating any. I try to hit at least 20g of fibre a day with salads and some whole grains. I also use fibre supplements (psyllium husks).

>And what kind of fats should I avoid?
Trans. Also, try to eat more unsaturated fats than saturated ones. Omega-3 fatty acids are win.

>>343150
Make sure you are getting fiber or you are going to be all plugged up. Eat leafy greens and other veggies (stay away from carrots though, too sugary). Buy some Metamucil if you want as well. For fats, eat nuts, natty peanut butter, olive oil, etc.

why just for losing weight?

i gained 70lbs on low carb + squatz (and deadlifts, and oly...etc)

and do it as status quo

you feel great and totally control insulin.

and by eating veggies at every feeding time,
you have dominating shits as well.
i dont get how you guys have digestion problems, other than you are eating silly atkin's style, of shitty protein and nothing green.

Absolutely. It is a two way street. Just like any other diet, you have to adjust calories to gain, lose, or maintain weight. Throw some low intensity cardio in the mix to shred.

Tell your mom I'll be over to tongue plow her stink ditch since she isn't all yeasty now which would have thrown off my low carb diet.

I wasn't very sophisticated with my training at all. I was doing an A/B split 3 days in a row with one day of rest; very high volume. At night I would run 2-3 miles with my friends.

When I say high volume, I really mean it. I'm talking 30+ sets for upper body and 20+ for lower (10+ reps a set. My tonnage was staggering); between 90 and 120 minutes from start to finish. I had nothing to do all day except work out and play Castlevania (and go to class once or twice a month.)

It works really, really well. It's good for fatties losing fat. It's not so great for long term or general. Ketosis works. People bashing it just view it as an easy way out. Also, if you're REALLY fat, don't use it to lose all your weight; you lose faster than what's recommended. Also, don't see how long you can stay on it. It takes about 2 days to kick your body into ketosis, stay on it to lose some weight, but then go off of it for a little bit.

is romaine lettuce good for low carbing and fiber?
