This week I decided to be less of a fatass, now that it is bearable to go outside and get some exercise. I've been taking my dog for a walk for about an hour every day, and trying to be more active in general.

I stopped drinking soda a few months ago, since there is no reason to do it. I drink mostly water now. I've been trying to eat light, but I don't know what sort of diet is a good idea. I also rarely eat meat, and am considering becoming a vegitarian.

I've been skipping breakfast because of time issues, and I know that's bad. I usually have very little for lunch or nothing at all, because school food is absolutely disgusting and unhealthy (senior in highschool. yeah yeah laugh it up). I've been eating very little and I know it isn't good for me.

I need some ideas for what to eat on the run between school and work (around 10-12) so I don't wreck myself with lack of calories, since supposedly that kills your metabolism.

I'd basically like to know what I should eat, how much, etc. Also, is this amount of exercise sufficient? I am busy, since I work as a web designer as well as go to school each day, so I hope it is.

I currently weigh 270lbs. Halp.

Hour-long walks are a very good start, as far as exercise is concerned. If you're able to commute to school by bike, that would be a good lifestyle change, too, though it's not always practical. In general, keep to low-intensity aerobic exercise for fat loss and make sure that it's pleasant (like walking your dog) and not a chore.

You're probably right that you need to eat more, and it might be necessary to get up a bit earlier in the morning for breakfast and/or making and packing a lunch to take to school. For dinners, you might consider the so-called half-and-half diet: Serve yourself a moderate amount of food, with half of your plate as vegetables and the other half meat and starch.

You can expect the results to be slow; but you can also expect them to be sustainable, which is more important than quick loss.

Thank you for the intelligent response.

You're right in that it isn't practical for biking to school. It'd be possible, but from school to work is an extra 7miles, and I have to make that trip on a busy highway in about 15 minutes, so its not likely.

I'll try to get up earlier, but its often impossible, as it is not uncommon for me to be up at two in the morning making last minute changes to a website. Stressful lifestyle, but its important for me to break into the market before college.

Also, how slow is slow? I've been trying to do lots of little exercise here and there as well, like crunches (usually I try to do 50) and half-assed attempts at pushups.

You definately need to eat three meals a day. Drink lots of water. You're off to a good start

>how slow is slow?

Maybe a pound a week or less, but that's a wild-ass guess.

If you can't get any additional specific exercise time into your schedule, you might try to be more active during other times. For example, if you're 'idle' at your computer at work (i.e., you're thinking or planning, but not actively using the machine), get out of your chair and pace around a bit. Sounds like a really minor thing, but that little bit of extra activity still counts for something.

hey that's better than nothing I guess.

I'm sure if I don't fail at life and give up (i'm fairly determined) it'll go the other way (as in I'll increase my exercise).

i went vegan once, i have never been hungrier in my life, i lost 3-4 pounds in 2 weeks, and unfortunatly it destroys your muscles, if you do not take in enough protien and shit. while its good, if you enjoy milk/cheese go vegetarian

You dont need meat to be healthy if you supplement with whey, caesin and other protien sources.

Theres alot of octo and lacto vegetarians, who eat eggs and dairy.

Meat is preferable, but its not necessary, hell I only had 2 chicken breasts today, I got less than half of my protien from meat.

Some days I only have 6oz of meat or less, doesnt mean I dont get my 220 grams or so for the day.

There is no Black and White in Nutrition.

here's an idea, how about instead of coming here and asking your stupid vapid questions you go and actually read up on fitness, health and diet? you know, empower yourself and shit? if you want to be healthy and fit, why don't you read about what healthy and fit people do?

Isn't that what /fit/ is for?

Yeah. What's the point of a fitness board if the only advice you get is to go find a book on it?

Another good way to get rid of some weight while still eating is to eat a small salad as an after-portion. It'll help cut down on the size of your other portions, and the fiber-y goodness of the salad will help with calorie control.

At least thats what I've heard.

find a book on it is pretty much the best advice anyone could give. i know about a bajillion percent more than pretty much every motherfucker on this board and i still don't know shit.

Op here.

I guess all the trolls gets online after I'm asleep. Convenient. If I was going to buy I book I probably would have skipped asking here. I believe in the internets.

Anyway I woke up earlier this morning and had a bowl of granola cereal I had laying around. For lunch I had a salad, and I have read that it is better to have large/whole vegetables in with your salad so I added some raw broccoli and radishes.

I also did some various exercise in the morning (50 crunches, leg lift things, dunno what they are called but they definitely are a workout, it burns :D). I figure if I do that every morning and every night that should help.

I'm at work now. They have free yogurt here so I might grab one later.

Thanks for your responses, again. As for going vegetarian, I might do that. Not sure. I don't really like chicken, and that is one of the few meats that is really healthy, other than fish. Perhaps pescetarian. I don't have fish often though, since it is expensive (I think? I don't really buy food that often).
