Word up /fit/

Long story short, depression, the quitting of cigarettes, as well as a non active lifestyle have left me where I am today. 6'1" 330lbs. Oh I am a dude as well. I also have acknowledge that my fatness is my own fault. No one or anything is the blame but me. The aforementioned is just my path I took to being fat.

The past week I've been walking about an hour and a half a day. Which is WAY more than I normally do, and I'm feeling so much better just from that. I picked up a gym membership, and threw out all my old food. I've made a commitment to no fast foot or soft drinks, as well as healthy eating. I know the old tried and true method of exercise plus eating correctly, and correct portions is how you lose weight.

Which brings me to my questions. What type of exercising should I be doing for maximum fat loss? Both cardio and weight lifting. Basically, a workout routine that would yield results somewhat quickly. Also, what type of diet would one recommend for fat loss. Fasting? Carbs? No carbs? Lots of protein? Oh and are there any fat burning type of supplements worth taking that actually work? I'm almost wanting to get one just for a placebo effect.

So yeah, anyone who has lost weight, I'd love to hear what you did. I'd also appreciate any tips or advice from anyone else with knowledge of the subject matter. Thanks.

Thanks, I'm looking to get to 200lbs as my goal. I'm a broad shoulders, naturally built kind of guy. Just pretty fat currently. Checking out that site right now.

Law of averages is your friend here.

Want to be 180 lb? Eat like you're 140 lb to maintain. Want to be moderately fit but not crazy good fit? Train like you're trying to be an worldclass athlete.

Right now fast walking is probably best for you, running would be too much at the moment.

If you join a gym you could try out cycling and ellipticals or rowing for some variation.

As far as weights programs go, if you're joining a decent gym or have some cash to spare the generally recommended is www.stronglifts.com 's 5x5 beginners programs.

Start with just the bar and learn the form for all the exercises and then start upping weight.

Do not fast. Fasting causes your body to do stupid shit and kills your metabolism. Do not eat less than 800 calories a day. As for what you eat, if it comes in a box or bag, chances are it'll make you fatter. Even if it says 'healthy' or whatever. You need to be eating whole foods - veggies, fruits, lean meats.

Do everything to get in more activity. Take the stairs, etc, if you can. Cardio is the activity that's going to be what's burning your calories, but your muscles are the tools, so the more muscles, the more calories burned.

Good luck.
