/fit/ I need help.
I've been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for a while now and I'm pretty good. But whenever I get into a street fight I always opt for taking down the opponent and just choking them out.

Sure it's funny watching them pee themselves coz they can't control their bladder passed out, but I want to learn a striking art.

What does /fit/ think about Muay Thai Boxing? I heard it's one of the most deadly forms of art and probably the best to use in a street fight.

Need opinions!

It could be considered boasting that he made the following assertions without directly saying them:

1. He has fought in more than 1 street fight.
2. He has won these fights.
3. He has choked out several people.
4. He has made some urinate themselves.

In countering that with fact:

1. Most people have never been in a real fight.
2. 50% of all people in a fight lose.
3. A choke out in a street fight is rare.
4. Loss of bladder control is not a symptom of loss of consciousness.

If the OP is to be believed, he is probably choking out drunk people, or has done it once.

Sure, Muay Thai is a good striking martial art. I have not taken it, but have seen it in action and it looks to be very well-rounded. Depends on if you like it or not, like most martial arts. However your reasoning for learning these martial arts seems a bit misplaced.

Muay Thai is a great striking art - though it's not a stand up punching art. It is a well rounded style.

>>174315

The guard is so easy to break, you can do it on anyone. Once you feel the guy pulling you in, explode standing up, make enough room so you can high knee through it, shift your weight forward, and then fucking stomp on the guys face.
>> Anonymous
>>174323

maybe its because certain (if not most) slams rely on pure strength? i always thought that way. Even though i wasn't a fantastic wrestler, doing a slam on my opponent always made me feel better. Unfortunately, most refs are way too testy about those things :(

Norly, Jew has a point. 'Exploding standing up' is actually a pretty common thing to do - the problem is this puts you in position for a 'pop-up mount', where the guy in the guard grabs the back of your ankles and pulls them towards him, while pushing forwards with his hips. This sets you up for ankle locks and heel hooks, or being put on your back.

And the 'creating space thing' is great in theory, seeing as that's what EVERYONE tries when they're in the guard. The whole issue is someone else's leg strength versus your... uh.. waist?

Elbowing the shit out of their thigh will loosen it up, but watch the armbar. And the rubber guard.

Motherfucking rubber guard.

>> Anonymous
>>174369

Yes, if the guard is locked in tight, then its impossible. The opening for this stomp is when you're getting sucked in. The breaking movement creates space, allowing you to get your leg through the gap you just created in between the legs. This works especially well when the guy is falling to his back. But the point is, you pull back when he's trying to bring you in, and then you join his momentum and then fall forward. It's not even the ground game yet, really.
>> Anonymous
>>174405

This 'sucked in' part I'm missing. Guard isn't really a slow thing to pul off... But I spar with quick little fuckers.

I don't think I'm understanding what position the stomping guy is in? Unless he's still on his feet I really don't see how it could work.

Yea, the stomping guy is still on his feet, and its more really of a situational/transition/timing technique. It works best when both guys are on their feet, and one of them decides to pull guard by dragging you down. The stomper is still standing and hasn't fallen completely into the other guys guard.

It also works if the stomping guy fakes a tackle or a takedown and allows the other guy try to roll the guard out, although it's a lot harder to pull off, as is there's more momentum against the stomping guy and he's also lower.

I mean, the only comparable technique I can think of is catching kicks. You have to time it perfectly, if you don't your fucked. To also answer someone else's question, I got the idea from some guy in Vale Tudo named Murillo Ninja a few years back. Ever since, I've been messing around with it. Actually, here's the youtube video, you can get the basic idea out of it, but what's different is that Murillo is never completely in the guard when he stomps. You can see the bottom guy trying to get the guard, but Murillo launches it from far out. I do it just a little closer in when the legs from the guard are touching my sides.

I've been training Muay Thai for about a year now, I will say it compliments BJJ pretty well. OP, by pretty good what belt are you?

Taking down an opponent in a street fight is definitely a bad idea? I don't think I believe that very much, but if you do decide to take Muay Thai be prepared to actually get hurt, not silly aches and pains from "the gentle art"

Fuckin' Bear Style.
You're only screwed if George Washington comes into the picture.

No, really...I'd say Jeet Kune Do (very much a free art) or something that places a lot of emphasis on striking pressure points.
Those are what I've done, anyway.

It really depends on you as a person. Your body type and how your mind works is really what will determine how well you can work with a certain 'style.' For instance, if you're big and burly, and your mind is good with kinesthetics, but isn't the fastest in the world I'd really suggest bear style. It emphasizes twisting the waist with the shoulders to generate power and is usually good for people with larger frames who have more weight to throw around. If you're smaller, say...average then a lot of 'styles' would be alright for ya.
>> Anonymous
>>174496

What the fuck are you talking about?
>> Anonymous
Groundfighting is when you're both 'on the ground' such as you have someone on their back, and you decide "Hey, I'll put this guy in such-and-such hold!"

At this point, one of his buds will kick you in the temple. :/

Most people avoid this for that reason.

Issue is, I take it this anon is assuming all chokes are done from a grounded position, which is definitely not the case.

Using BJJ in a street fight has one tragic flaw. A grapple isn't going to save you when the person you have in a clinch decides to jam their finger or thumb into your eye.

Niggers do the same thing, but with a whole lot more swagger and shit-talk before they actually attack, which makes it easier because it's such an obvious warning

>> Anonymous

Yes it is the best course of action to do. First, it prevents a fight from even happening. Second, you don't have to shoot the guy to get your point across. Third, if it comes down to shooting, in most likelihood, your not going to get caught. Most murders in this country won't be solved.

>> Anonymous
Also, if you're not willing to kill, then you have no business learning to fight in the first place.
>> Striking Bob
I would highly suggest an all around Muay Thai fighting style with boxing+kickboxing. You can get to a point with your kicks where one powerful and properly placed leg kick and your opponent will not be able to walk, boom the fights over. On top of knees and striking with your BBJ back ground you will do some serious damage.
>> Anonymous
>>175329

Let's see, you could sit there and fight some asshole until one of you can't stand, of you could pull out a weapon (you don't even have to point it at him) that you're legally allowed to carry to protect yourself to get him to back off and leave you alone. Both people walk away and nobody gets left lying on the floor. Unless you get into a fight with someone who is seriously drugged out or drunk, it will end right there with nobody getting hurt. In the case of the drunk/drugged guy, you'll have plenty of leverage in court as long as he attacked first.

What do you think would be the better situation; having to explain yourself for leaving a guy with a concussion and missing teeth, or having to explain yourself for flashing a weapon at a guy who was trying to injure or kill you?
