Here's my one month progress shot. In this month I switched from going to my shitty machines-only gym and started using a sandbag and other ghetto stuff instead. I also started eating a bit healthier (switched from white to brown rice for example) and didn't drink beer for 3 weeks.

I stopped going for long (10k) runs and went for shorter ones instead, and started speeding up. Sometimes I added some sprints at the end, some of those up a steep hill.

I didn't lose or gain any weight (or negligible amounts), but I increased my max on all the major body weight exercises and I think I've lost some fat. I switched to harder pushups as soon as I was able to do enough regular ones. I added weight to my chin- and pull ups. I was finally able to crank out some real dips, something I couldn't do before.

This week I started going to the shitty gym again simply because some exercises suck big time with the sandbag and are better even on machines.

Any tips on improving my routine? Any pointers on which muscle groups to target (and what exercises to do) to "fill up" those areas around the rib cage?

I'm aware that my pecs are still tiny. I also know that I sweat like a mofo, so disregard the soggy boxers and the shininess.

Try doing a bench press with a 45kg sandbag and you'll understand why I needed to switch back. That shit is fucking hard and unsafe and it's not even heavy. Also i ripped the skin on my fingers to shreds with deadlifts. I added handles to take care of that, but it's still just not much weight.
