Would eating a jar of peanut butter a day be unhealthy. Only reason im asking is that i figure its an easy way to eat 5k calories and a good source of protein.

i kinda thought about the same thing :) not a jar though... just eat it while im in college, just to get enouph calories

a whole jar a day, and your body would probably develop an allergic reaction or you'd get very sick

tl;dr: everything in moderation, except for squatz and oatz

5000 cals is not good

You're probably trolling, but just for argument's sake:

I'm looking at a jar of natural chunky peanut butter, made from peanuts and salt. 14 servings * 210 Cal/serving = 2940 Cal/jar.

There are 8g protein per serving. 14 servings * 8g/serving = 112g protein/jar.

However, there's a large amount of fat in peanut butter. 14 servings * 16g/serving = 224g fat/jar. One serving is 25% of your daily recommended value of fat based on a 2000 Calorie diet.

However, you're not on a 2000 Calorie diet. You're on a 5000 Calorie diet.

16g fat * 9 Cal/g fat = 144 Cal

144 Cal * 4 = 576 Cal

576 Cal fat/2000 Cal total = 1440 Cal fat/5000 Cal total

1440 Cal fat * 1g fat/9 Cal = 160g fat

You'd be way over your recommended daily value of fat, even for a 5000 Cal diet.

Peanut butter is very healthy and a great sauce of protein and unsaturated fat. The proportions are fucked up though, so a whole jar would be pretty unhealthy.

You should just eat lots of oatz for breakfast, rice or pasta with chicken three times a day, maybe some pancakes and 300 grams of cashew nuts in between. I think that would bring you pretty close to 5K.

might want to look into the sodium content of peanut butter.

also, protein powder.

if you do, get natural unsalted peanut butter. also, no more fat in your diet, the jar will provide more than enough.

you can choke eating peanut butter straight. Your saliva isn't enough to dissolve it to liquid. Trying to swallow a spoonful can lodge it in your throat. If no one else is in the house, you could be in deep shit. Seriously. Babies choke to death swallowing whole grapes or hot dog pieces all the time. If you know an EMT or anyone working the emergency room, ask about the stupid shit people choke to death on.

To answer OP's question: you would get scurvy (no vitamin C) and eventually vitamin B deficiency.

To get the B vitamins found normally in meat, you need to eat beans/legumes AND grains in combination. so peanut butter + oats, pb + toast, beans + toast, beans + rice, etc. this is how vegetarians are supposed to eat, but usually don't.

B12 is only found in meat and dairy and yeast. Peanut butter contains no B12. Enjoy your malnutrition.
