Dear /fit/,

I donated blood yesterday. 2 pints( about 0.95 liters), but before the donation a doctor took a look at my statistics and came up with the following information. He said that my BP was good and that everything else was fine, but he asked me if I was nervous, because my pulse was high. Up until he asked me that, I thought I was fine...

Is there any reasonable explanation for having a pulse of 98? He didn't seem to think it was my weight( I'm about 190 and I'm 5'6", I know, I'm working on losing weight, but I don't exercise much).

My concern is the pulse. Is it high, or can it be high from nervousness without me being consciously aware of the nervousness/cause?

Also post ur hemoglobin counts

Count your pulse right after you wake up. that is your resting rate and counts the most

...you were nervous...that's all...you can be nervous without being conciously aware of it...

Okay, but is this pulse impossible at rest, or are you guys rationalizing that it just *shouldn't* be this way? For the purposes of not having to come back and start a new thread later, etc.. let's say that I took my pulse after I woke up and it was still around 98. Would this mean that I'm waiting to have a heart attack or something?

yeah, it's pretty likely that you were just nervous. besides, who doesn't get nervous around needles?

abnormal high pulse is very very dangerous could mean a lot of things, most likely weak heart. DO NOT EXERCISE until a competent cardiologist clears you for it. DO NOT PASS THIS OFF AS NERVOUSNESS even if it was it still means your resting rate is way too high to be healthy even for a fatso.
BRB CARDIOLOGIST NOW!

Thanks. My cousin's a doctor, I'll check with her and see if she thinks I should go see a cardiologist about it. I'm not about to go run any marathons or anything, just go to classes and sit around.

The reason that I was initially concerned about this is that my diet isn't really that good, and I don't exercise, so I was expecting all sorts of terrible measurements, like insufficient hemoglobin, high blood pressure, etc... but it all looks fairly good.

Kind of like when you see a drug addict in unexpectedly good health, except my drugs consist of caffeine and... well, caffeine.

at the state you are in, you could probably drop dead from just looking at /x/

you shouldn't listen to>>80203he is just trying to scare you. Any heart rate is fine as long as your blood pressure is fine.

hey op, normal pulse rate for adults is 60-100 bpm. so youre fine.

Thanks. I didn't mean that I'd call my cousin up frantically, I'll probably just mention it to her casually. If she turns pale and starts running around making calls, THEN I'll actually start to worry.

Thanks again for the reassurance.

Your blood pressure is a little high, too. Not real high, but might as well cut the sodium and start working out now.

Also, congrats and thank you for donating. Of the times I've gone in to donate, I've been successful about 3 times. Been deferred for having legitimately small, deep veins and a very slightly low hematocrit.

>cut the sodium
More myth. Sodium is GOOD for you. Especially if you work out.
