Hey /fit/. I just ran about 2.5 miles on the treadmill. My right knee has a dull throbbing pain in it now. Is this normal? I'm a beginner runner, and I've felt the muscle soreness in my calves, butt and thighs, but this pain in my knee is different. Should I be worried? Or will it clear up tomorrow?

glucosamine and chondroitin is what i take for my joints. ii shop at wegmans and get a 17$ jar of hard pills, i take 1 pill 3 times a day.(morning, afternoon, and before evening)>>277220
and yes it will clear up tomorrow. if you get a good nights sleep and drink alot of water (not too much) your body will fill your joints up with the nessicary bile to keep them lubricated.>>277190
vitamins can help this, or you can eat shrimp all day :P. (that is one of the surces of glucosamine). as for water, "Everyone should drink at least 1/2 ounce of water per pound of body weight per day, more if you will be exercising strenuously" from my chiropractor. it used to be "Everyone drink 64oz". i have to drink about 80-90oz a day, and i weigh about 150lb. it seems like alot, but its not really. try drinking out of a measuring cup. or a jar with measuring lines on it. this will help keep track of how much you drink. and if you ever feel like stopping running, try changing your diet. it might help you stay dedicated. i prefer vegan. cuuting out all of the bad food helps absorbtion of vitamins and minerals, and can sometimes prevent joints from being properly lubed.

cutting out bad foods will NOT prevent your joints from replenishing the lubricating bile.

i should just reword it altogether.....Dont eat bad food. bad food is bad for joints...:p

Just throw some ice in a ziploc on it. Twenty minutes on, twenty off. Repeat. You'll probably be fine the next day, but the ice should reduce the pain.

If you're just getting into running, you'll find that little aches and pains are pretty common for the first couple weeks or so.

im sorry, if taking care of my body, offends you. its not about being "new age" (im not) its about using the things that are around you, to make the best of the ONLY body that you have. unless of course some breakthough in neuro-technology that allows you to get rid of your flesh and get a new prothstetic cyborg body. ala ghost in the shell. lol

With little amounts of information, I think that it would be diagnosed as a patellofemoral syndrome, and I suggest you to go to a physiotherapist or a doctor to have it checked.

I know that it sucks but it's way better than just experimenting whatever things you want.

And also, the therapist can also teach you the proper form of running, rather than doing the wrong thing the whole time over and over again.
