Stomach pain Anonymous
Hi /fit/

Need your advice on this one. A couple nights ago I was out eating Japanese food after work, it was a horrible cheat meal and I overate a little bit. I ate fried calamari, tempura vegetables, steamed soy beans and chicken teryaki. The only thing I have never eaten before were the soy beans.

About an hour after the meal, I had an incredible pain in my stomach; it felt like someone was disembowling me with a baseball bat. My pain tolerance is pretty legendary (I've been tasered multiple times and shot once) and none of that even compared to the pain I felt in my stomach. My dad called me an ambulance, when I got to the hospital I was put on IV painkillers (not sure what kind, didn't think to ask) but the pain persisted (although significantly dulled) throughout the medication. I have had blood drawn, stool and urine samples taken and had my guts inspected with a camera; the doctors have no idea what's wrong. There is no trauma, nothing weird with any of my tests (white cell count was up a tiny bit, but that's normal for me), basically nothing to explain what happened. The pain went away on it's own after about 5 hours of lying on the hospital bed.

I know that it wasn't gas, I have always been able to feel gas pains coming long before they affect me. I have no idea what else it could be.

Any ideas /fit/? By the by, I'm a fairly healthy, active 24 year old male. I have been trying to adjust my eating habits to a more healthy lifestyle (I rarely eat any kind of fried food, but I cut out all preservatives/replaced breakfast with oatmeal/cut white bread/alcohol), other than that little has changed with my body.

tl;dr Horrible stomach pains following Japanese food (teryaki, tempura, calimari, soy beans), healthy adult male, hospitalized, no reason for pains discovered.

Allergic reaction possibly?

I'm sorry to tell you this but... you're allergic to Japan.

IBS or cramps?
>> Anonymous
OP here,

It didn't quite feel like cramps, and I don't have IBS (as far as I know). No one in my family does. Would IBS show up on any of the tests the hospital performed?

I don't have any allergies (again, as far as I know). I was tested for food allergies when I was younger and was fine with everything.

If you weren't tested for allergies at the hospital it could be allergies.

as for IBS...I too think that's a specific tests. You know how doctors are won't test for anything specific unless you demand them too

It could be a rare condition called 'Le Flatulence de Soy', first discovered by Dr. Pierre de Rierre in the late 1790s. Wiki it.

You had a fucking gallstone, and I'm absurdly surprised the ER didn't catch it. Did they even do an ultrasound?

IBS doesn't show up on fucking anything. Sometimes there is irritation visible in your intestines, but that's not common.

IBS comes from a nervous system disorder that can only be alleviated by activating the sympathetic nervous system. You won't know you have it unless you get pain all the time without reason or explanation.

I'm not quite sure, but I don't think any tests would discover IBS. I've had the type of pain where I would wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to get up. I literally had to crawl to my cellphone and call someone from within my own house. It has happened at least 3 times in between long periods of time.

I narrowed out cramping because of the low possibility (intense ab workout and sitting on my computer chair with my abs flexed all day). I narrowed out IBS cuz I didn't have diarrhea and I know the pain associated with diarrhea goes away after you let loose. My last conclusion was that I was destroying my colon because I don't poop often enough. In fact I used to poop once every 3-4 days.

OP here,

No ultrasound was done, don't gallstones usually cause pain in the upper abdomen or up near the shoulder blades? My pain was in the lower abdomen, around the bellybutton.

Should I go back and ask for an ultrasound, or will the gallstones have dissapated or whatever they do after causing inordinate amounts of pain (PROTIP: I'm not a doctor)?

Yeah, I hear girls are mostly like that. Other people made it out to be freakish. I told my doctor and she said the pain was coming from my colon so I just assumed. The pain hasn't returned since and I'm shit out of theories.

Go back, get tell them you have gallstones, get an ultrasound. I will chop my own dick off live on webcam if I'm wrong.

Silly me, it could have been this

This is why I'm not a doctor. Check it out OP, could be the same problem.

gallstones. enjoy never eating deep fried food again.

I had a similar pain last year. It ended up being diverticulitis. Within 3 days of finding out what it was, my colon burst. I almost died from the infection, ended up with a colostomy bag for 6 months..... you might want to get the doc to take a closer look.
