Hey /fit/

I walk to work every day. It takes an hour to get there, and I carry a backpack.

If I put a 10 pound plate in my backpack, would it do me any benefit?

if you took the bus or drove, you'd have more time to go to the gym and get a real workout.

No. I made a thread asking about walking 2.5 miles with a 20 pound backpack on, and all the answers basically told me that the only benefit I get will be being better at walking with a heavy backpack on. It won't give substantial leg strength, and it won't give you good cardio. (ALthough they could have all been wrong.)

instead of putting the 10 pound plate in your backpack, hang it off your dick

Wouldn't it make me better at hiking, and make me burn a few extra calories?

I already go to the gym, which is in walking distance also.

It will DEFINITELY make you better at hiking. What is the route like, how long is it? How much water do you carry with you?

How about this: put the 10 pounds in, do your walk, and tell us.

If you're walking a decent pace to start with, every pound you add to your load should increase the amount of calories you burn. It should also increase your stamina. There's a reason they make army guys train with their gear on their back.

As I said, it takes me an hour. I usually go through short trails, and its slightly hilly.

yes, and the reason is because they may have situations where they have to use their gear so they may as well get used to it. Putting extra shit in your backpack only makes you better at carrying more shit. You will become a better pack mule, yes. You probably will burn a few more calories. You could also burn calories by wearing no backpack and running. You could burn more calories by tying books to your legs and walking on your hands. Any extra exercise or weight or anything that heats up your body is going to burn extra calories.
