Dear /fit/...

I don't often smoke. In fact, in my 24 years, I've probably only smoked maybe five packs of cigarettes, total. I used to smoke a pipe, but that, also, was only rarely. Most of these "packs" have been spread out over several years, and usually in the form of people offering me a cigarette or two as opposed to buying an entire pack of cigarettes. It's never really been a habit, but anyway, recently, I decided that from now on I wouldn't smoke anything, whatsoever.

But today, I started to notice a pain in my throat when I swallow, a slight lump. But of course, last night I was yelling in a drunken fit as I was losing money gambling. I'm not exactly sure how much I was yelling, but I was simply told today, after the fact, that I was quite loud.

So, my question is...

What are the chances that this pain in my throat is throat cancer, and what are the chances that it's just a bit of swollenness from my reaction to a bad luck streak?

Wow. You're a big fucking hypochondriac. You don't get any kind of smoking related cancer from a few fucking packs. You don't even get it from fucking 5-10 years of smoking. It's caused very imperceptibly over time.

You can worry if you end up being 60 years old and have smoked for 30+ years.

Trauma from yelling does not equal cancer.

Well the thing is I know it "commonly" occurs in older men who have smoked over a long period of time, but, there are exceptional cases of non-smokers being diagnosed with it at an early age. Guess I am a hypochondriac, and I'd be more than happy to find out that I'm worrying needlessly.

I was just looking up what "throat pain accompanied by a lump when swallowing" could be a symptom of online, and it's several things... the deadliest of which is throat cancer. So I suppose I'm just hoping it's a slight inflamation.

A man who lives with worries may as well not be a live (or a man).

I don't think I've ever seen a documented case of smoking related cancer that occurred after a few packs. The human body is a little more durable than that.

If it bothers you this much, go get some xrays done.
