Hey /fit/,

I recently have been looking around my area for gyms to kill time and get back in shape. I have never been to a real gym other than the one in my old cc. I know that in order to join a gym you have to pay a monthly or a prepaid yearly plan. I know this sounds weird but I don't like using my debit card and I don't have a credit card. My co-worker said that if I wave a wad of cash at them they're bound to accept me. Also I have read online that most well known chains like Bally Total Fitness, 24Hour Fitness, etc. tend to have unfair business practices and overcharge their customers even after cancellations or when they're asked to put on hold.

Two days ago, I printed out a free two week guest pass to Bally Total and checked out the place. The gym was inside the mall so it was kinda small and crampy. There's not much to say except the gym seemed to have all the equipment except it was ghetto and the sales people were pushy as fuck. I decided not to go back there again when I asked them to give me my id after registering they kept it so another salesperson can hassle me into joining after my workout was done.

tl;dr: Please tell me about your gym experiences, what gym are you going to, and is it true that independent gyms are better then big chains. Thanks.

Bally Total Fitness...

You do realize that its a health board meme right ?

People say oh I work out at Bally as a joke, because Bally treats their customers like shit, has shitty weights, and is more expensive than other better gyms.

BALLY IS A MEME !!! A living joke to gym go-ers.

Look into LA Fitness, Im very happy with them even if they are a bit "health clubish".

Go to consumer reports, look at the "Best gyms for the value" article, it came out an issue or two ago.

If you are a chick: go to the one that makes you most comfortable as that is the one you will be most likely to actually be motivated to go to and work out in.

If you are a guy: Any gym will do. In fact the shittier the gym, the more you will probably actually get done. Why? Ive got no idea? Maybe because a shitty gym has less women to distract you? iunno. 5lbs is 5lbs. As long as the benches dont have sharp shit cutting you, the bars are not too warped, and the machines are in safe working order, WTF more do you want? Work out in the shitty gym for less money, and then get the guest pass to bally to pick up a chick.
