Protip: Knees aren't muscles.
if you have bad knees, there are areas of your legs and hips that you can strengthen that will definitely help; just do a little bit of searching. Often times a strength imbalance between different muscles in your legs can cause knee problems as well. Finally, stretch your hips and illiotibial band when you can; the IT band is the thing on the outside of your leg that runs from your hip to your knee. If it's too tight, you can get bad lateral knee pains; especially if you're a runner.
I have terrible knees, and all of these things really helped me.
