Hello /fit/.

I used to do a lot of sit ups, but I stopped because I found out I have scoliosis. This basically means I have a slightly twisted spine. It's not actually as bad as in the picture, in fact it's barely noticeable. But one side of my ribcage sticks out more than the other.

I'd like to start doing sit ups again, but every time I do try, it feels like I'm twisting my ribcage more for some reason and it sticks out more. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, or maybe it's just not good to do it when I have scoliosis.

I'd really like to get some proper abs though, so I was wondering if there's any other possible way I could get visible abs or maybe I should just go ahead and do the sit ups and hope for the best?

Holy shit OP. Is this you? If so, I think it would be kind of hard not to notice you have scoliosis.

Nah, that's not me.. Thank god.

Mine's no where near that bad. You can't even really notice it with me.

see a chiropractor, and i would focus on training the spinal erectors instead of the abs.

if its slight enough, you can fix it just with smart training and a chrio making things are aligned back there

Go see a doctor.

You could be doing them wrong. I also have scoliosis, but it doesn't stop me from doing anything. It's very minor, like 4% or 7%, so the doctor refuses to see me but I know more about it because my sister had it more severe and had to wear a brace at night when growing up.

If you seriously don't have serious scoliosis go ahead and do the exercises. However, in case that it's actually worse than you know it to be or has gotten worse go the doctor or ask a physical trainer what they think you should do.

Mine's definitely not above 10%.

I think I might proceed to do it for a week. If it seems to get any worse than before, then I'll have to find some other method of getting abs.

I had a really slight case of scoliosis too, but it seems to have completely vanished after doing deadlifts for a long time.
