I'm going to assume this is the best place to put this, since it's Health and all. Skin health.

I was wonder what you guys use to wash your face? I had mild acne, and was wondering what department store brand was best? I don't have the money or the time to wait for that ProActive shit.

This is what I used last, but it made my skin feel tight and dry as fuck. And that's my problem, I have mild ance and my skin is pretty dry.

So what do you use, and what's your skin like?

Bacon grease does the trick.

But seriously Just a mild soap is best. Make sure it's non comedogenic, amd preferably has some moisturizer in it. And unscented is usually best.

Most powerful cleansers and medications are going to dry your skin out to a certain extent. That's what they do.

Remember to moisturize. Nivea For Men's moisturizer for sensitive skin works really well for me. No scents, alcohol, dyes. Just use it after you wash your face.

i just use shampoo, and scrub it off with a washcloth

works great.

To wash, I use Neutrogena Sacylic acid face wash, or a scrub wash without any chemicals on dry or cold days.

Stuff works. There's also an excellent face wash based in benzoyl peroxide that works well and isn't too drying.

I used to have acne. Nothing, not salicylic acid, not benzoyl peroxide would work. Scrubs, exfoliation, astringent. BUT it turns out that's because my acne was cystic (characterized by deep, painful bumps that rarely come to a head, often appears on the back or chest as well) and I needed sotret. Was on it for four months and haven't had a considerable pimple yet. I use clean and clear wash and every now and again, a deep pore cleansing scrub. But not all the time. Hot water and a washcloth do just fine.

what the hell is sotret? is that like accutane?
>> BurgundyStone !gbkUU57rKA

It is accutane, sorry. That was the specific name. Short for Isotretinoin, which is the chemical name for Accutane. It dried me out so bad the first few months, but yeah. Works like a charm.

Used this in high school. Don't use anything now except a normal bar of soap.

Everyone's skin is different. There isn't ONE regimen that will work for all skin types.

I used to wash my face in the shower every morning with a moisture positive cleanser. Then exfoliate, use a toner, and moisturizer. At night I would wash again, tone and apply a cream with benzol peroxide and Salacylic acid.

I still got zits. And my skin looked like shit.

Finally I got fed up and just stopped washing my face at night. I stopped using the creams and toner and my skin got a lot better.

TL;DR there is no one fix. Sometimes simple is better

I wash my hair, face, and the rest of my body with the same shampoo when I shower.

I use only water when I shower, except for on my face. I used to soap up my shoulders, and before that I never had any problems. During it I had breakouts, and eventually I stopped. It felt weird to stop, felt dirty for 2-3 showers, but I after that it felt fine to just use water and I stopped having breakouts almost completely. Soaking in a bath is a nice way to get clean, no crap from any product to deal with, just clean (hopefully) water soaking out and impurities and dead skin cells. Only problem is even just water can dry your skin/hair out if you're in a while.

As for face, I still use soap, and it dries my face out. I use a moistened paper towel after to wipe away dead/flaked skin cells and wet my face, and it stops being tight. I need something better to wash with, though =/

I try to use very little soap, and use it VERY gently, trying not to rub it in deep but just barely touch the surface and rinse well. I don't really have breakouts, but even that (like I said) dries my face out

You need a good balance. Not dry (of water or natural oil to hold in moisture), and not oily. Too far either way will give problems.

Also pay attention to the temperature of the water. Warm opens pores, and cold closes. For (longer) hair it's generally best to use cooler water and finish with a cold/cool rinse, so maybe that would help with skin too? I use the coolest I can comfortably stand, which is easier if the room is warmer and/or you are colder.

Anyone have suggestions for a good (non-drying) face wash?

did me wonders throughout high school.

how to beat your average acne:

drink plenty of water
dont lube your face with butter
keep clean but not dried out (from washing)
&
get some sun ;l

I have dry skin with an oily forehead/nose, and I tend to get acne from deep under the skin. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash followed by Oil of Olay moisturizer works for me, but I'm guessing you're a dude and don't have an inclination for all that.

Neutrogena bar soap is pretty cheap and is pretty easy on the skin. Also, when you shower/wash your face remember to *blot* it dry: rubbing a towel on your face can dry out your skin and make you break out more.

Dr Hauschka is the best for your skin.
Fuck that chemical shit. It strips back the top layer of your skin.

Differet Question
Wanted to make a diff thread but might as well post here

How can i get rid of the scars that leave acne.
i mean the little shitstains that acne leaves..
is there a product i can buy?
i have brownskin and basically i have like 4-6 of this dark spots on my face.
any solution? /fit/?

I rarely ever get pimples but this works sooooo good for me. I use clearisil or walmart brand facial cleanser. I then put a thin layer of moisturizer on but if you have pimples I would use moisturizer for acne prone skin. The reason you want to use moisturizer is because your skin will dry out and in turn make more oil which will then produce more pimples. You can use a little toner on your face (clearskin, neutrogena etc) before the moisturizer to get it extra clean but I don't think this step is needed. Then take a needle that is sterilized by alcohol and poke each pimple just a little bit. After that put neosporen or triple antibiotic cream on each pimple. I promise you this method will get rid of your pimples in like two days. Also, once or twice a week use a good exfoliator, my favorite is avon exfoliator but if you are a guy you might look weird so just pick up st.ives exfoliator at walmart. Do a really good job exfoliating all the dead skin off twice a week and using the neosporen method and you will be good to go!

mederma for scars works WONDERS but you have to use it every day religiously and it's kind of expensive. Also, if the scars are pretty old it won't work. The scars have to be a pinky red color or pretty new for it to work. It works soooooo good though.

Get some accutane from a doctor if mild acne use it for 2 months and it will clear up. if really severe then it's unknown.

Don't pop/touch those things and use Benzoyl Peroxide 25% (Strong) for 15 minutes on each and wash your face.

And if everything goes well and there's no more acne but scars go to a clinic that does plastic surgery stuff (forget what you call them) they've got some good micro-abrasion techniques that will reduce the scars considerably.

in my own opinoin, dont do anything.

dont wash it with any products, for a period of time i didnt even wash with water.

if you have like greesy skin, just use a bit of warm water to rinse it off before you sleep.

it will take a while, but eventually your skin will become more 'supple', and like it was before you had achne.

something else i recommend is a product called 'freederm'. it dries our the spot , and u just leave it overnight. all that clearasel. clean and clear shit edoesnt work, it just dries ur skin and makes it sore.

trust me, just leave your skin for a while and youll see the difference.

If you are in your in low 20s and still see acne you the face. IT IS NOT GOING AWAY. and your doctor will tend to agree with this.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, DO NOT DO THIS! Talk about some potentially serious scarring and infections.

I use St. Ive's Apricot scrub for acne prone skin at night and clearisil in the morning and I always put on a moisturizer after. I really recommend using a scrub only once a day. Clean and Clear scrubs seem way too chemical for me compared to the St Ive's.

i used aveeno for almost 3 years, which is SUPPOSED to be less harsh on your face. Late last year I realized that my acne had just gotten worse.I was even getting absesses.

So I swore off acne cleaners.

Ever since I stopped washing and touching my acne, it's cleared up immeasurably!

I recently started to take zinc supplements (50mg) a day because I heard it reduces acne. So far I havn't seen any results but have only used it for a week now. Also, recently I've eaten a bit too much fried food, which I regret. Too much KFC.
