Well if you're a noob to weight lifting and just asking about cardio, here's what you do:
-Start my working out two to three times a week. 2 sets of 10 reps, using basic and natural movements. Here's an extensive guide to exercises: http://www.exrx.net/Lists/Directory.html Do your entire body (that means legs, too!)
-Once you've got 2-3 months experience, start introducing new techniques. Lifting to failure. Pyramid sets. Splitting your routine into 2 days. More variety. Body weight exercises. Lower volume/greater intensity. THere are literally thousands of combinations for you to tinker with, but some will work together better than others. Do your research.
-EAT. Muscles need fuel to grow and maintain themselves so increase your portions and frequency of eating. Aim to eat 500-700 calories over your maintenance level each day. Stay away from the Saturated Fat, Trans Fat, and High Fructose Corn Syrup. Look into protein bars or protein shakes if you can't get enough protein in your diet. (Protein intake should be ~1 gram per pound of body weight)
