Workout Question Ultranic
Hey /fit/ I just have a couple of questions that I hope you can help me with.

Why is it important to work particular muscle groups on certain days than doing the same exercise that works a variety of muscle groups everyday?

I've been working out quite a bit these past few months (at least four times a week) and occasionally I go with some friends who are a little more seasoned at working out at the gym than I am and they help me out allot and show me all kinds of new workouts ; but its very rare and in between I can coordinate with them, so for the most part I do my own exercises which include lots of what they showed me with free weights, chin ups, abdominals, running, and the occasional weight lifting machine. However I usually do all these exercises at the same time (with a cool down period of boxing, basketball or jump rope) which means it usually takes me about two hours to finish and I cant help but wonder if it would be better if I just concentrated on one group of muscles one day (like legs) and then the next day another muscle group. I have the habit of when I fatigue my arms, I will work on another part of my body like my abdominals or legs for a little while before going back to working my arms again and vica versa. Is that healthy or a bad idea?

Now when I started going to the gym I weighed about 138lbs, and after working out and eating more and taking in protein and creatine following every exercise and meal I weigh now 145lbs and I can see visual increases in muscle growth on my arms, pectorals, abdominals, neck and shoulders. Should I be concentrating on one muscle group and dividing up different kinds of workout every day throughout a week or stick with just one rounded workout?

Also if anyone can suggest a workout guide, something that tells me what muscle groups I should focus on a day along with some idea of a workout with recommended sets and reps included for my body weight that'd be great as Im for the most part just winging it.

Height: 5'7

Weight: 145lbs

Age: 23

are you weighing yourself with or without the swords? lol

Anyway, there are some workouts that have you do one set on an A day and a different set on a B day but I think you should schedule time at your gym with a trainer and talk to them or pick up this book because I know it has workout system like that in it.

haha im makin fun of the background :P

You should pick up that book, and after you read it, and follow the workouts for a while, you should take it to the gym, tear it in half like a phonebook, and growl at a trainer.

Alright so anybody else have any literature to recommend? Im not hot on personal trainers as they cost an arm and a leg and I'm a college student who works at a call center part time for 11 bucks an hour. I lucked out with my gym membership

Ive actually wondered this too and cant afford a personal trainer because I suck.

How many times do you go into other people's rooms to take photos of yourself just in your boxers?

Muscles take 24-36 hours to heal. Generally you want to be working out lower body one day, upper body the next.

The only book you need to start is Rippetoe. It is better than all of the other books put together, basically. And since you will be sticking to his workout for months, you won't have to worry about getting other ones. But if you want something else, you could also get "practical programming for strength training"

That is not good advice. As a beginner, OP should be doing full body workouts M-W-F.

Rofl. Well hes the only one with a full bodied mirror. But I can see how that statement would look bad.

Thanks. I should really buy a book about this now that I think about it.

Makes sense. When do you know when you are over working yourself? Any tell tale signs?

OP how long have you been working out? You're making me feel bad by not having more gains. I'm just starting and I want to be XBOX HUEG by the end of the summer.

For a few months but there has been days I have been very inconsistent due to work and school. For the most part I try to go 3 or 4 times a week for at least 1.5 hrs.

Keep in mind I have a ridiculously fast metabolism so I don't think its hard for the muscle I have to show. More hard for me to put on more weight and build new larger muscles. Particularly for my girlish arms and wrists.

Oh ya that reminds me, any good exercises to make your wrists and forearms bigger?

Ya bigger wrists and forearms would be nice. That way my girlfriend couldnt wrap her fingers around my wrist and laugh

Hate that bitch
