hay /fit/ i was just wonderin...
i know a lot of you have made serious progress with your goals whether it was strength training, running or weight loss and i have to know... uhhhh for those of you who have experienced long-term success did you have a coach or mentor along the way? or did you go it mostly alone?
some people say that you should never go at things of this sort alone without someone experienced to guide you to overcome your obstacles, while others say that earning everything by yourself with noone to fall back on is the only way to truly change
give me your thoughts, /fit/

I went it alone. I'm about 140 at 5'10 and still trimming off some fat and building muscle. Lately I've been shedding 1-2 lbs a week.

Alone, but I did it all wrong for the first four months. Educated myself, started again and now I have a good base of knowledge to go by.

Got results, too.

I think this is a good mentality to follow. No one should be your support pillar; you've got to do this for number one. It's selfish and egocentric, but if you change for someone else, guess what happens when that someone disappears?

You gots to realise.

went it alone.
hit a weight loss plateau for five months, almost gave up but stuck it out. now back on track and it was the most satisfying feeling to see the numbers go down again and know it was my will power and hardwork, earned every inch of progress i made.

I'm doing it for myself, but I'm doing it with a couple buddies. it was kind of random. My friends got a shitload of equipment in his basement and he invited one friend over and then he invited me over. The other guy is kinda petering out, but now I'm gonna be going over there 5 days a week instead of 2.

It's good to have a buddy with you working out, but don't rely on them for motivation. You have to want it.

Read, everywhere. I'm self guided, motivated, but it's not like I just went out and made it. I constantly educate myself online, and frequent here on /fit/ to keep inspired.

Anon speaks truth.

When I quit smoking no one believed I could make it stick. Even my mom didn't believe me. I was like fuck you I'm doing this for myself so I don't care what you all think. Haven't smoked a cigarette in more then 8 years.
