>>72709 Tabata is essentially a type of HIIT. HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training. When people talk about HIIT, they're generally referring to running; Tabata is like HIIT for every other exercise (though you could Tabata sprints too). HIIT is done by varying between sprints and jogging, with longer sprint intervals and shorter jogging intervals as fitness develops usually for 10 to 15 minutes.
The point of the workouts is to be awesome at everything. It burns calories better than a 'regular' workout, keeps your body burning more calories for longer after you stop working out, taxes your cardio system harder, and trains muscles to the point of exhaustion quickly so they can be built back up.
If you haven't tried either of them before, and aren't overweight/obese I'd recommend you try the following workout for an experience of what it's like. Tabata Squats, Situps, Pushups, and if you have a bar, Pullups, if not then do Knee Jumps (Jump up, bring knees up as high as you can, land, repeat). Do each exercise for 8 cycles as described by>>72676and after each exercise, rest 1 minute and then do the next. The entire workout will take you 20 minutes.
It's 20 minutes of your time, and it will be worth your time, because you'll learn something new, even if you don't like it.
If you're overweight/obese, this will be too intense for you. You could try the same thing but with reduced number of cycles (4 or 5 maybe) or with shorter work and longer rest if you need it (15 and 15 maybe).
