Bear in mind that I am completely unlearned in this area, and, indeed, this is a strange and foreign board to me.

Are there any foods that are more filling than other, mostly equivalent foods? I've been thinking about dieting but I've a high appetite, which seems like it'd be a hurdle to overcome.

I'm 6'2" and had about 26 BMI, although over the past year it's slowly crept up to about 30 BMI, so there's been gradual weight gain there. My largest activity comes from work (retail environment five days a week, most of it spent off the register), otherwise I'm currently mostly sendentary (Also something I'd like to change, but that's not for this topic). That being said, even on my days off I'm finding myself needing to eat 3000+ calories a day just to avoid feeling hungry.

Like all red-blooded Americans I open the day with bacon, and have a burger for lunch, and a steak for dinner-- I kid. But my diet does tend towards meat, and is admittedly less-than healthy. Lately I've had a few minor shifts-- For example, my work lunch recently has been along the lines of soup and bread instead of a burger and fries. I've noticed that they seem to do about as good a job to keep me filled, despite fewer calories and whatnot, so that's what's prompting this.

Help the ignorant, /fit/! What's the best way to feel full without overeating?

You need to eat foods high in protein, protein fills you up more. Eat things like almonds, whole grain bread, oatmeal, etc.

salads heavy on the lettuce and other water rich, content light foods will create the feeling of fullness without the calories. And of course, drink lots of water.

These are both incorrect. Dietary fiber will make you feel fuller, longer. Oatmeal is great for this.

Hot foods too actually, and not as in temperature as in like spicy.

Spicy foods cause you to feel more full quicker

Such lies.

Eat fats.

Healthy dietary fat tends to make you full almost immediately, just know the calorie content before you get yourself into that shit.

This.
a piece of chicken is about 200 calories. a piece of fried chicken is around 400-500. With this in mind, be weary of what you add to what you eat. It is the oils, butter and other variety of additives that exponentially increases your calorie intake. So basically you can have a 3-4 pieces of chicken for lunch/dinner or you can have 1-2 pieces of fried chicken.

This goes double for salads. The dressing that you add to the salad has at least double the amount of calorie as vegetable alone. This is one of the main reason people who tries to lose weight by eating salad fails. With this in mind, if you cut the additives such as sugar, butter, oil and so on you can actually have more whole foods which will in turn makes you feel more full and have less of a craving.

and lastly yes i know a piece of fried chicken with ranch sauce taste 10x better then a piece of lightly seasoned chicken but if you want to lose weight/fat then drop those extra additive you add to food.
