I've been eating shit all my life and wanting to change this because I've noticed a major lacking of energy, slower brain function and shittier memory overall for the past few years.
At the moment, besides from breakfast/lunch/dinner:
I consume 5+ cans of coke everyday
Eat at least 1 random junk food everyday
Eat after 8pm if hungry

I'm not overweight (5'9, 130lbs), but I think all the soda really fucked me up over the years. I'm going to attempt to reduce the amount of pop I drink gradually (severely addicted) and just go cold turkey on other junk. Any advice would be appreciated.

1.Pepsi? Cut that shit out right now. That stuff will kill you.

2.Snacking is okay. Just eat healthier stuff that you body can use. Fruits, grains, nuts, veggies, whatever.

3.An alternative to 3 meals a day is small snacks throughout the day. An apple here, granola bar there. Just make sure to get at least 2 major, "real" meals in your diet each day. And none of that McDonalds crap either.

4.If you must eat out, I suggest places like Subway, or a sit down restaurant (as opposed to fast food).

5.I recommend sports drinks to replace your soda habit. Stuff like Gatorade and flavored water is just as good and better for you. And if you can afford it, just get plain old fruit juice instead.

6.If you must eat late in the evening, make it something that your body can easily and quickly digest. No meats. Grains are good (and filling). NO SWEETS OR JUNK FOOD!!!

7.Drink water. Every organ in your body requires water. If you are pissing clear once a day, you are doing good.

Good luck with your health, and I hope that this advice proves helpful.

Fuck yeah, Cheerios!

As for OP, I really think Soda is a huge cause of malnutrition. I had a girlfriend who must've drank as much as you, and she was just above 100 pounds. Mostly in the tits though.

So yeah, get substance in yourself. If you must, get a bottle of coke and have a LITTLE BIT throughout the day. Start with allowing yourself a 600 ml bottle every day for two days, then wean yourself down to nothing.

Actually, the sitdown places are worse because they don't give you nutrition information and their foods are usually higher in calories than most fast food.

Also disperse it throughout the day. If you're thirsty, drink water or something else first, then the bit of coke.

One big problem with me with sweets is that I eat/drink it all the second it was put in front of me.

OP, don't try to do anything gradually. Change your lifestyle and do it today. The more time you give yourself to quit, the less likely you are to actually stop drinking the soda.

Don't be a pussy - go cold turkey. I was like you once, and now I fucking HATE coke -- shit feels like acid going down. I quit cold turkey.

There was a time when I'd drink a 20oz coke a day, I went down to once a week, and now I'm at once a month. It wasn't that hard to do.

5+ cans of coke a day is ~250 grams/1000 calories of refined processed sugars. Gross.

Yet you're only 130 lbs. You must not eat too much else or have a lightning fast metabolism. Your body is running on sugar, which is shit for your body. Complex carbs, starch, protein, and unsaturated fats are much better for you.

OP here. I've been drinking soda like this for 3 years straight and just dropping it all of a sudden is hard. I've tried to stop before but it's like trying to quit fapping. My mind doesn't think straight and everything just starts breaking down for me. My throat starts feeling odd, and unsatisfied without that crisp carbonated liquid flowing down. I used to absolutely hate coke too due to the lingering acidic aftertaste and left my mouth feeling shitty overall, but now it's the only soda that does it for me.

I've always had fast metabolism, otherwise I'd probably be fat as hell. Although I do occasionally exercise and train.

Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

Michael Pollan is a genius, I highly recommend his books.

There's severe alcoholics out there who quit cold turkey and ride thorough the delirium tremors and stick it out.

I know people who have kicked the heroin habit.

It's fucking pop dude. Give it up.

eating protein every few hours will help combat sugar cravings. it's not the same, i have to try at it, but it will help. learn what things contain protein, and i don't mean just meat.

staying awake late into nighttime will cause enormous carbohydrate/sugar cravings. which time do you usually consume the most of those 5 pops/1 random junk foods? turn off the lights, the computers, the video games, try to be asleep by 10:00 pm latest. Others may even say 9, but I don't know how possible that is. Sleep in complete dark, that light will cause the cravings. Late light = cravings, ya, I know, who knew?

>which time do you usually consume the most of those 5 pops/1 random junk foods?

It's basically whenever I get the craving. But usually goes like:
8am - Wake up, open a can
10am - Eat breakfast, open a can
1pm -Eat lunch, open a can
6pm - At this point I've consumed at least 2 more cans.
7pm - Dinner, open a can
8pm+ - open some more

wow. you're addicted. I never liked pop/coke/pepsi that much, horrors of teeth dissolving was moar than enough to convince me to abstain. yeah, it tastes awesome, but it's only for ten seconds it's in your mouth, then it's just gone wreaking havoc in your body below, for hours. i seems like your brain is releasing some kind of pleasurable reward for sugar spiking, there's lots of sugar in one can, like 29g or more.

ok, we need to stop focusing so much on "stop pop", since that discussion is pretty much like kicking a dead horse, and instead significantly shift the focus more to eating what IS nutritious! By correcting the rest of your diet, eating approximately 6 small or medium meals throughout the day, balanced, you will have reduced cravings for such sugar spikes.

begin learning proper nutrition now. i know schools generally teach jack shit about it, so use the resources you have available to you, the internet, maybe a good book if it doesn't kill you, something, anything. get better nutrition, now.

Learn. Damnit. It's free. It's like cheating, by hiding the answers in your head.

Restrict yourself to a diet coke only at dinner. It'll help a lot.

holy pissnipples dude, give up the coke. that shit is bad. so is diet coke. it's better if you give up pop altogether, drinking it regularly is bad for your teeth as well as your figure. i used to drink dew regularly but after i got 2 cavities and heard how another regular coke drinker had to get like 5 root canals (he still hasn't given up coke btw, lol) i cut out pop except for special occasions.

Diet coke is still much better than normal coke. and, if he's going to take such a huge step, just one diet coke a day will be a lot better. I asked my brother's pediatrician a while ago about it, and he said an 11 year old could consume a can a day without worrying about any health risks.

Oh bullshit. The kid would end up being overweight as his years progresses. The first time I drank diet pop I had nausea and bad diarrhea.(Mostly do to the aspartame) I NEVER had these symptoms when I drank pop. But when I avoided both beverages and just drank water I lost a lot of weight and all the toxic shit was out of my body. Even my rashes and headaches disappeared.

Aspartame converts to Methyl alcohol, that being formaldehyde. Better known as EMBALMING FLUID. If you think that's even remotely healthy then there is something utterly wrong with your head.

We've had all types on 4chan before. I wouldn't be surprised if Stephen Hawking had been, and I'd bet theres at least one NASA lurker out there somewhere. Quit acting like everyone is underage b& like yourself? Doctors may informed, but they don't know everything. Plenty of mistakes have been made, products deemed safe become illegal, etc.

I want OP's metabolism.

For you, I'd recommend some kind of low glycemic plan. South beach just for a week to kick the sugar cravings ought to do it. Weening yourself off will take a shit ton more time and effort than just a week with none at all.

If that's really, REALLY improbable, switch to one bottle of diet a day and sip at it.

Finally SOMEONE who is actually smart on here. Thank you. You have my kudos Guil. Doctors are just like parrots. They only repeat what they have been told of what is right.

Just cause you have a PhD doesn't mean you are right about everything. My psychology professor has a PhD and just last lecture he was corrected by a student on a blatantly stupid point. And it wasn't just a slip of the tongue or anything; he genuinely didn't know his shit.

All I'm going to say is that if it's in your house, it'll get into your body. Don't want to drink coke anymore? Pour it down the sink. Sick of the random junk food? Throw it out. Conversely, if you want to eat healthy, you're going to have to buy healthy. Plan what you're going to buy before you buy it: it'll make it easier to resist buying things that aren't on the list.
>> RSI guy !HjbWRiSTJ.

I don't know what formaldehyde is, but if it's informative I intend to watch that 1.5 hour video.

Soda had a severe hold on me--anywhere from 2-4 cans a day. I just went cold turkey, having had only one in the past three weeks (primarily because I ran out of other beverages and the store was closed). It can be tempting to break at times, but if you keep a variety of other (healthy) drinks on hand, it's not as hard as you'd think. I have a variety of fruit juices on hand.

Who's to say I wasn't? I'm not the only one here who has attested to going cold turkey and being able to break the habit. I have tried refraining before, and failed. I believe the only thing you really need is to WANT to do better for yourself.

The point of listing the some of the unhealthy habits I had was to give the audience a general feel of how unhealthy I've been the past few years. I didn't actually know what type of diet would be best for me and what kind of foods will prove most efficient for restoring my energy and brain function throughout the day so I asked for advice.
