I have a male beta fish in a two gallon filtered tank and I was thinking of adding a female beta. Is this possible?

1) Is the tank big enough to support both?
2) Is it all right to have just one female with a male? Will he harass her to death?

2 gal is enough to support both, but its a really bad idea, they will harrass eachother to death, yah the female can get quite mean if she doesnt feel like mating. so only put them together if you want to mate them

Males are also rough with females after mating and they don't always survive after the 'violent' ritual.

Best bet is to only have one male OR a small group of females.

Nuts I really want another one ;(

Oh well, I'm not cruel so I guess I won't do it.

If you do want to spawn them eventually, you most likely want to have at least a 10 gallon tank for them.

You really should look up sites on betta breeding; bettas are extremely territorial and he might kill her. They will eventually get used to eachother if you keep them separated by a glass panel and give them plants they can hide behind, but they should only be introduced to the same waters after lots of conditioning in preparation to spawn, and then separated after they mate, leaving the male to take care of the nest.

If you do go ahead and get a female make sure you have an extra tank she can live in if simply separating them with glass isn't enough.
