ITT: Cats who like water.

I want one. I also want to train it to kill children and bring them back to me as trophies.

Sort of on topic: how would one go about teaching a cat to like water?

I know it wouldn't be possible in every case, but my one cat is fascinated with water, he loves watching running faucets and the pool and a full bath tub. I think he would really enjoy swimming if he was introduced to it properly.

I guess you would have to make it learn to accept the water at a VERY young age. Like...weeks old. I wouldn't put him/her in a tub full of water, but I'd put him/her in a very shallow bed of water just to accustom the cat to the water.

I wish I could give my kitty a bath without him killing me.

I have a cat just like it. She'll swat at a running tap. She stares at the toilet as it flushes. Hell, she stares at anyone in the shower!!

But she will NOT go into the water. She will hiss, scratch and bite.

Cats are weird. -.-;

You'd probably have to let them explore water on their own, which would be entirely up to the cat. A shallow pan or a tiny bit in the bathtub would be a good start, maybe with a treat or toy in the water for incentive. No good forcing them, though.

One of my cats will sit in the shower with us, and has no problem with standing around in the rain, and hopefully one day he'll be okay with jumping into the pool. Throwing him in would just freak him out, though, and do away with any progress he's made.

God damn it. I decided to look at that site, and now I want one...really really really really badly.
It just sucks that there is no way I would be able to afford it, plus all the meat that I'm sure it eats.

People keep exotic cats, I'd imagine you could feed him a similar diet (in addition to fish, of course). I'm just not sure where you'd get a fishing cat, though. I don't think anyone breeds them (though there is actually a hybrid domestic cat/fishing cat breed. I think they're also a protected species.

Actually, a lot of cats have no problem with water. They just only go into it to hunt, or at least that is the typical cat. They won't bother to go into it unless they need to. So if you can get your cat to feel the need or desire to go into the water you'd be more likely to get them to swim, but forcing the cat in is the wrong way to go about it.
