Actually, it might work. A lot of factors could fuck it up: blood compatibility, the temperature of the uterus, gestation time, ovum size with regards to implantation, and the relative size of the host and embryo could all lead to spontaneous abortion. However, certain matches have been made between species of rodents at the very least. Cats and dogs are probably too far apart since their closest relationship is Order Carnivora, but it's not as impossible as you guys seem to think.
