Why hello there /an/, I seek your guidance!

I just adopted a five year old Siberian Husky Female, the owners moved away and could not care for her any longer.. So they gave her to me, she is 100% Siberian Husky with full paperwork and injections.. all that jazz...

I've never owned a dog before, and I was wondering what owners of husky's around this age would have in the way of advice. She's laying in a chair about a foot away, quite content, however I am worried about her missing her family.

So /an/, advice? I only want to make her welcome and to keep her healthy.

I would worry about her missing her family too. A good friend has a husky and when he travels she will ignore him when he first gets home like she is mad at him. she is obviously effected and a very intelligent dog. maybe talk to a vet about it. Good luck and enjoy! great dogs..

Huskies will easily come to love you. They are not unwaveringly loyal to their owners like most one-man dogs who often "break" in some way when separated from their owner.

Just show her lots of love and she will come around to you. In lives.. the only significant age changes go from 0-1 1/2 when they are little terrors, then 1 1/2 to 14 they remain basically the same, then 14+ when they finally start acting like they might maybe possibly be getting old.

So at 5 she should be moderately well trained (assuming she was trained) and a little devil at times. She will test your patience a lot and need a lot of exercise. My husky pulls me on a bike 8 miles a day. He's 2 1/2 years old.

I assume you don't live in the city or anything.

I live in the city. Why?

Make sure you get the dog running every day. Jog with it, or play catch in a park or something. Huskies have a lot of energy and they'll mess around in the house a lot if they don't expend it.

Huskies rarely will play catch. It's an exception. I wish mine did. That would make blowing energy so much easier. I run mine 8 miles a day.
