So, /an/, I am thinking of doing some volunteer work at the local animal shelter.

Anyone else here volunteer at shelters? Any advice?

i did for about a year.
i wouldn't advise doing it during the summer as there will be a fuckton of teenagers doing it for some credit shit they need for school.

make sure you wash your hands really well before you go home if you have pets there, and resist the urge to adopt every adorable baby puppy that comes in.

also, don't steal things from them. they will hunt you down.

Do they euthanize, or is it a no-kill?

I don't volunteer at a shelter, but I'd like to in the future. I DO volunteer with Adopt-A-Husky though, and overall it's a really fun job.

I volunteered at a shelter for 2 or 3 years in high school (not a requirement, I just did it cuz I wanted to). It was a lot of fun in the summer but extremely boring in the winter, and I got sick of it after a couple years. I would recommend it though. A word of advice if you do decide to volunteer and you work with the dogs: don't baby them when you take them out of the cage (or anything else for that matter), cuz they sure as hell aren't going to baby you. Use some muscle or you'll be chasing them around the shelter or around town if you're outside when they get away from you.
