Hey /an/, have you guys ever heard of Elephants painting?

I ran into this on youtube and found it completely amazing. I didn't know an animal could do this sort of thing. Someone told me it's a hoax (though I really believe it's real) - opinions?

"Just for clarification, with these realistic figural works, the elephant is still the only one making the marks on the paper but the paintings are learned series of brushstrokes not Hong painting a still life on her own."

It's still an amazing display of mental abilities and dexterity to learn how to draw these. Imagine trying to teach your dog how to draw flowers.

Here is the same elephant reproducing that same painting in another video.

Those flower paintings look pretty spontaneous. Seems like the elephant always paints a bit different kind of flower in the elephant painting too.

A funny thing: wild elephants are known to doodle in the ground with sticks.

I've read something about magnets guiding the brush...

Still very neat, nonetheless.

Yeah, yeah, everybody has a theory. Too bad the reality is that these elephants can paint. They usually paitn what they've been trained to paint (spontaneous elephant paintings are just a mess of colours), but it's pretty impressive nonetheless.

Jeepers, if I can get elephants to crank out some da Vinci fakes, I'll be rich
