Reptile rescue groups Anonymous
Alright /an/ I need some help. You see, my family will be acquiring a 70 pound, 2 1/2 year old, female, African desert tortoise(we think she's a sulcata) from my aunt who's moving to Oregon.

As awesome as it would be to keep her, it's not really in her best interest for her to stay with us.

Unfortunately, it was either we take the tortoise, or my uncle was going to shoot it and bury it somewhere.

So, does anybody know any reptile rescue groups or animal sanctuaries we can contact in the southern California area that can take her?

Could you call a local zoo? Tell them the situation. They'd probably be happy to get a free animal of such size. They might have regulations they have to follow... depends on whoever answers you, is my guess.

Thanks for the link.

My mom had the idea of calling some zoos. There's at least three that came to mind. LA Zoo, San Diego Zoo, and the Santa Barbara Zoo.

You're lucky you live in such a well populated area.
I'm sure somebody will want her.
I'm glad your going out of your way for her well being. Not many people would, anon. Be proud :D

I don't believe you have a tortoise. Enjoy your red eared slider.

Of course I don't have a tortoise silly.

I said I'll be getting her TOMORROW.

Hell, if it's was a red-eared slider. I'd keep it.
