Are there any non butch females out there that own a python? Because my sister wants one, but she doesn't know if she could handle feeding it live mice.

So I'm wondering, if this applies to you, did it take you a while to get used to feeding it live mice?

I have one. I just don't watch it eat them. And my boyfriend volunteers to do it for me half the time.

You can buy pre-killed, you know.

I thought I heard they wont eat pre killed..
but I'm probably wrong cause I know nothing about it

It depends on the snake. If it's used to eating pre-killed, which she should find out before she gets it, just stick with pre-killed. They're a lot handier anyway since you can keep them in the freezer, among other advantages.

But if you don't know anything about what's going on, why are you bothering to ask?

pre-killed=dead.

Asking for my sister. She knows a lot more than me.

I'm a tomboy at heart, but girlygirl in appearances. I've yet to feed my BP live mice. She's small, and I can't bring myself to actually paralyze or prekill the mouse. I could feed it to her after it were done by someone else XD I just can't.

Just tell her to feed it pre-killed, it's much safer than feeding it live mice anyway.

Feed pre-killed. Snakes eat both live food and scavenge for dead food in the wild; any snake can be conditioned to eat pre-killed food. They will not let themselves starve; if it doesn't take the dead mouse at first keep offering the mouse daily, or try one of these techniques:

If you're too lazy to adjust your snake to pre-killed or can't handle killing the rodents yourself before feeding then you shouldn't own a snake.
