First, that pic is of a dwarf and not a syrian, I'm sure you knew that already.
Are you going to be getting it directly from a breeder or a pet store? Usually the hamsters from pet stores don't get handled as much as their direct-from-the-breeder counterparts. Thusly, you are probably going to have to spend a few weeks gaining your little hammie's trust by repeated holdings, treat givings, and gentle talks. Seriously.
Syrian hamsters tend to have smellier cages than Russian dwarves, but they also tend to be nicer. Robo and winter white dwarves are pretty mellow and don't usually nip, but the Robos are too hyper for you to hold them.
