Shedding or Non-shedding Anon
I've owned shedding dogs all my life, but the rest of my family prefers the non-shedding.
Hyperallergenic and easier to care for than shedding seems to be the gimmicks. But seeing as most people are allergic to the saliva and dander, and all the damned non-shedders seem to do is chew on their hair, I'm not seeing it.
Poodles, maltese, shih tzus, and yorkies are currently owned by the family. They're constantly being groomed, trimmed, and getting their eye areas scrubbed (or eye drainage ferments and their faces smell of rotting flesh).
Bitching about the hair everywhere with a shedding dog, redundant. I find knots of hair everywhere from the damned Shih tzus and yorkies.
What's /an/'s opinion on shedding and non-shedding? What's so great about a non-shedder?

Small dogs are repulsive.

My 14 yr old Yorkshire Terrier is a rotting sack of shit.

because, Poodles, maltese, shih tzus, and yorkies are all fugly.

non-shedders and short-hairs are nice-looking and dont have fucking beards.
the only exception to shedders for me is the corgi, because they dont have ugly hair.

get a miniature pinscher, they always look neat, affectionate and are little dobermans!

You mean hypo. And yes, you're right, hypoallergenic dogs are for lazy pet owners who don't really want a dog, they want a moving stuffed animal.

Shorthairs actually shed like crazy. If you feed a premium diet it helps with the shedding, but shorthaired dogs will shed like mofos regardless.

I've never seen my minpin shed, he lives outside, so thats probably why I've never noticed.

But my point wasnt on shedding or not, it was how much better dogs with nice har look then dogs with beards and really long hair that belongs on a human head.

Papillons are also good long-hairs, no beard and you can see their face.

First things first--there's no such thing as a totally non-shedding dog. All dogs shed some fur, but the amount differs in vast quantities depending on the breed.

I find so-called "hypoallergenic" dogs harder to care for because they tend to contract more skin allergies than "regular" shedders, but that's just from personal experience. I guess it all boils down to how much time you're willing to devote to vacuuming, and where you let your dog run around (i.e. on furniture, in your closet, in your laundry bins, etc). I had up to three cocker spaniels living with me at one point but I hardly noticed any fur being shed because I brushed them out regularly in the backyard.

Speaks truth.

OP needs to google "hypoallergenic dog breeds" and educate himself. My pussy of a boyfriend is allergic to everything under the sun, so we had to get a dog that did little to no shedding. We ended up getting a poodle. (HATE poodles, really.) but a dog is a dog and I've always grown up with animals.

NOT having an animal was driving me crazy. I bathe the dog once every week (make sure to ask your local groomer what shampoos are safe to use frequently so that you don't dry out their skin or fur!) and keep the house clean and so far, he's not giving any allergic reactions. :)

They do shed, the curly hair just keeps it in the coat instead of on the floor. There's no such thing as a non shedding dog.

This. I have a collie with long hair and he hardly sheds but my short haired retriever sheds constantly.

Yes, it was hypo.
Op has done research, I'm not sure why you're implying I didn't. I just googled again to make sure I didn't miss anything..
Hell, I've had tons of firsthand experience with the nonshedding breed. My grandmother's poodle still caused a reaction in my cousin. And my grandmother is an ass about cleanliness so it wasn't the dog's filth. Or shampoo seeing as she used whatever she had handy and she would have had a reaction bathing with the shampoo.
I wouldn't own a bichon or the like. Note I was bitching about the amount of grooming they take. I was never one into trimming my dolls' hair, why would i want to bother doing it to a dog?
I've noticed the high allergies in the non-shedders. My uncle's and mother's shihs are covered in dried skin and sores. Allergy medicine to the rescue. My grandpa's poodle also had it.
I do like the visible clean faces of short haired dogs, though I prefer medium to long coated dogs.

Taking it to a groomer once in a while is better than sneezing your ass off. Bichons are sweet, intelligent, and totally devoted to you.
