My dog just passed away. he lived a good 10 years. I got him when I was 10 so we were ten years apart and we grew up together.

How do you handle pets dying? I just want to break down and cry.

I toss the corpse away and go pick up another one.

I'm sorry, that sucks.

Just cry. I don't care if you think it's "unmanly", just cry. It makes it a lot better if you just let it out.

I BAAAAWWWWW'd like a bitch when my cat got euthanized. It's perfectly okay, especially after ten years of knowing your pet.

It's not that.. I did cry and I'm in tears now. I have a cat who was his playmate for three years who's in shock right now, because I saw her nudging on my dog's body and meowing.

It's going to be a long time for me to get over this, I don't think I ever will.

Throw the dog in the garbage and take pics when they garbage is collected, the expression on the garbageman's face will be hilarious.

Sorry to hear about your dog.

My 7 year old dog passed away years ago.. now I have a female pit bull (not aggressive) who helped me get through with it.

break down and cry. It's ok.

There a places that cremate pets. Or you can bury him in a special place in the yard and plant a tree or put a little slab there.
I never threw my dead pets body in the trash.
As for the cat. let him be around the dog for a bit.
He is mourning the loss of his friend.

You just suffered the loss of an pet with an obvious emotional attachment involved. Go ahead and cry. get it out of your system. Go hangout with some friends or something and keep your mind off it.

Go get another one immediately. Right now. Seriously. It's the only thing that works.

One of my two guinea pigs died earlier tonight... he suddenly refused to eat, was only lying around and doing soft noices. Just when I wanted to take him out of the cage to check his teeth and all, he lay there, dead. :(

I buried him with my bare hands, 40cm deep, and wrapped him into the shirt I wore while digging. Put some treats he used to like into the package, out of certain personal beliefs. That ceremony definitely helped to get over it.

Guess I have to look for a new one on Monday, since the other piggy shouldn't be alone. Nearly forgot: he was only 3 years old. :(

Thx for listening, /an/

Truly go get another puppy and give all the love you had for the other dog to the new one. you'll feel better. It works.

You just made me cry. :( I'm sorry for your loss, anon. When you do bury/cremate your doggy, make sure to give your cat the most attention in the world. She'll need a lot of love, just like you. You both can get through it.

I too am teary. Nudging and trying to get the dog up.. she's sad as you are sad.

Don't simply replace your dog and ignore him. 10 years is something not to be forgotten. Remember him

Oh, that's rough. Mine is about 9, I can't stand thinking about him dying, but I know it'll be soon... I've never had a dog die before but he has been so loyal and friendly I know it's gonna crush me.
Wish I could help but all I can say is I'm sorry.

What are the signs? Take him to a vet and see if there's anything you can do because you can help.

One of my rats died a few years ago, and his cagemate was shaking the dead body and nudging him trying to wake him up and I just b'aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwed.

Losing a pet is like losing a family member sometimes. All you can do is be sad for a bit and then you get another pet and go through it all again when that one dies.

I came home from school one day to find that one of my pet mice died and his cagemate was eating the corpse. I'm sure I didn't underfeed them or anything. Damn, that was disgusting.

My dog passed away a few months ago. She was my mums best friend and I grew up with her, having got her when I was 7 and her living 15 years.

Theres no easy way of getting over it. I still look for her when I go in the garden and check that the back gate when theres nothing to escape.

I loved that dog so much. Im crying again now! Its been 3 months! Theres no way to get over it, it will just fade in time. But you can be happy that you had a lot of time together, and that he (she in my case) lived the happiest life and dog could have and couldnt have been loved more.

Same thing happened to me. The thing is, the mouse died right by the completely FULL foodbowl, and Benjy was just munchin' down on Frankie.

My 15yr old dog, had since pup, is deaf, going blind and his back legs are starting to get weaker. I've lost animals before, but never one that we've had for so long. I just know it's going to hurt when he finally goes.
