Spider ID? Anonymous
Hey 4channers. Can anyone help me ID this spider? I've always been told that these were called "English Harvest Spiders", but I Googled and Wiki'ed that and came up empty handed. Some info: We're in Western Washington (state), and it's much too large to be a Brown Recluse (everyone tries to tell me that's what it is if it's brown). If you want an idea of how big he is, he's trapped inside a CDR Spool lid, if that helps. Thanks.

After Googling Writing Spider, it doesn't look like it. Thanks for trying, though!

Don't let it bite you, venomous as fuck. Bites usually hurt like hell, and can cause the surrounding tissue to necrotize (i.e. die).

Western WA security guard, one of the shacks I locale has a million of those huge fuckers. Never knew they were hobo spiders, that's kinda creepy. Not as bad as brown recluse but the aids are still strong in those spiders.

Another Washington person here, our apartment complex is covered in those things. They're all over at night, even had 'em run at me when I was grilling outside. They aren't supposed to be aggressive are they?

So, you guys flipped it over and looked under the cephalothorax for distinctive patterns, and then looked at its genitalia? Because that's the only way to positively ID a hobo spider.

As scared as I am of spiders, especially these huge things (I've had one dart at me from underneath my stove in the kitchen in the middle of the night... while I was under the influence of certain mind altering substances too), I've read that there's actually ZERO up-front evidence that hobo spider bites necrotize -- only anecdotal evidence where it was perfectly feasible that sepsis could be the explanation.
