hey /an/ I don't know which animal I should get :/

should I either get a Chameleon or a pygmy marmoset?
>> Anonymous
get both lol

Neither? Chameleons die if you breathe on them wrong and for fuck's sake, at the Philly zoo they have this "THEY DO NOT MAKE GOOD PETS" notification right in front of the pygmy marmoset exhibit.

Neither. They are both incredibly difficult to care for. If you can't decide between these two drastically different species, you are not prepared for either of them.

If you want a chameleon just know that a very brief rundown of their needs would be trees, a wide variety of exotic insects which includes (worms, catapillers, moths, cockroaches among others), UV lighting for their habitat and a habitat that is far from any loud noises such as traffic, vacuum cleaning, televisions, music systems. Again this is a very brief rundown and I'm sure there will be other needs.

As for pygmy marmosets, just don't. Unless your super rich monkeys are the worst possible pets.

Yeah I agree with all the previous posts.
I owned a Chinese Water Dragon Lizard, and that was rather difficult to manage.
It just keeled over one day (And I cared and loved that damn thing!)
A Chameleon is probobly twice as difficult.

Bottom Line. Only get an exotic pet if your're totally willing to invest the time and MONEY necessary to give it the proper care

The marmoset would be VERY, VERY difficult (and expensive) to keep, and will probably drive you insane.

Chameleons are definatley doable as pets, but they do have very specific requirements. 184278 already mentioned most of them. Though, I'd like to point out that their lighting and temperature requirements are very specific. You MUST make sure you have the right light, temp, and humidity levels. You can get automated systems that help control this for you, but they are expensive. If you don't go this route then you need to devote a lot of time to checking on their cage and tweaking everything so it's just right. Also note that if you need to go on a trip then taking care of your chamelon will be a bit more problematic. It's not like a dog or cat where pretty much anyone can take care of it.

Be sure to also check whether or not animal clinics can handle the special care that sometimes a exotic animal needs. In my case a chameleon that had lived over 4 years and developed a case of mouth rot, caught it early, but none of my damn animal clinics within 150 miles had the medicine or the knowledge I needed to help him.

So does anyone have any chameleon pics? All weve seen so far is some guy's hand and a blurry shot of a living room. For some reason, I'm not having any luck with Google images either, which is strange.
