However, my statement on kids using puppies and kittens to impress people still stands. A puppy won't be able to defend you, less would a kitten. And you never see these kids acompanied by a full grown dog. That's because a mature dog doesn't give that much of a pity aura (well, unless it's standing in the middle of a road, in pouring rain - but you get my drift). Most homeless I've seen with grown dogs were elderly people and I do believe they keep them for company and protection. These animals also look well taken care of unlike the ones kept by the kids, which look malnurished most of the times.
