Went to the humane society with my girlfriend and we picked up this little cutie and named her Starbuck. She's a bit of a spaz, but extremely friendly. She seems to have a tapeworm, so we're taking her to the vet soon.

For anyone in the Puget Sound area, check out http://www.mudbay.us The Humane Society gave us coupons to Mud Bay for free litter and food, so we decided to check it out on the way home. The people are ridiculously friendly and the store carries lots of quality litter and food for cats and dogs. We got a whole bunch of coupons and freebies, and their food is very reasonably priced. Natural Balance canned food (a very high-rated wet food) is like 95 cents a can, which is cheaper than you can get it online, when considering shipping costs.

The one here in Tacoma is awesome. You do have to pay, but it's totally worth it. Our cat was $98, pre-spayed. Free microchip, free collar, free initial vaccines. We also get a free vet appointment and free treatment for certain diseases for the first two weeks.

Along with that were the Mud Bay coupons, which got us a free big-ass bag of high-quality litter, and options for free dry, wet, or frozen food.

They also have specials every so often. Currently, orange cats are $60. Or if you buy one cat of any color, you can get a black cat for no extra charge. We wanted to get two since it wouldn't cost us anything extra for adoption, but we figured two would be too much of a handful for us and our small apartment.

And, yes, Starbuck -will- lead us to Earth. If we got a male cat, we were gonna go with Zuko (from Avatar) or Dexter (from..Dexter)

It's like $8 for a similar package where I live.
I got ripped off, though because a stray cat decided to have kittens on my porch before I had a chance to adopt one from the humane society.

I hate you, and your taste.

Congrats on your new adopted kitty! We need more responsible people like you!

I think it's only fair that shelters charge for pets. They have expenses with food, spaying/neutering and housing.
Besides, a pet will cost money in the long run. If you don't have enough money to keep it well fed and healthy, buy a plush toy, instead.
