It completely ignores the animal's fears for the sake of human laziness and convenience. Promoting the bathing of cats unless they are filthy is nonsense, and only dirty money-grabbing. Also, traditional ways of washing dogs, such as hydrobath or hand-washing are far more thorough and targeted - little or no water in the ears, nose or eyes. If water in the eyes and nose is painful for humans, it can be assumed that it is painful for dogs and cats also, not to mention, frightening.
