You're a retard. If you live in a fucking apartment and you're never home, why the hell would you think that you should get a big dog? What, so both you and, more importantly, the dog can suffer? Yes, go get your husky or your lab and within 6 months that poor dog will be looking back at you from behind the bars on his cage...at the SPCA as you give him up because you "couldn't handle him." Don't get a dog you *think* you could handle because you're just setting yourself up for failure if you do. You should get a dog that you know is specifically suited to apartment living and being left alone for long periods of time. (BTW, neither labs nor huskies fit into either of those catefories.) So wise up and don't get a big dog. And if that dog's gonna be alone all day, you shouldn't get a puppy (it'll pee all over and you'll have a hell of a time housebreaking). You should rescue or adopt an older dog.
As to what breeds are good, why don't you try a corgi, a sheltie, or even a miniature poodle? Dachshunds are also very good, as well as basset hounds. Pugs are very friendly as well.
A note: If you go with a herding dog (corgi, sheltie) you would need to be prepared to exercise the dog constantly. But if you live next to a forest/park then this shouldn't be too much of a problem. Besides, herding dogs generally can be trusted to walk off leash and run around without running off, so you would probably enjoy walking with them.
Good luck and don't be an asshole.
