Aww, doesn't everyone want a pet one of these?

Nah, deep sea fish would require too much time, money, and technology to keep for me. Aren't the lifespans of most deep sea fish really short as well?

Anglerfish can live 24 years
Orange Roughy can live to up to 150 years
Tubeworms living up to 250 years

iUnless it is possible to keep deep sea creatures in a specialized tank that copies the ammount of water pressure found that deep in the ocean and can copy their extreme habitat it's not possible to take care of them.

It follows that if metabolism is slowed then other processes will be influenced as well. Lowered temperatures lead also to slower growth rates and reproduction rates. Longer lifespan also seem to correlate with colder temperatures although whether this reflects physiological (i.e. internal) or ecological (i.e. external) processes is still being investigated.

You'd need some type of refrigeration and pressure system, and probably a really dark room. If you had a power failure they'd all go blargh, so that means a generator as well, probably hooked up to your natural gas. Don't they have some kind of tanks on experiment ships that you keep these things in for a while?

I just assumed that blobby creatures doesn't live very long, but it makes sense because their metabolism is so slow.

Why does their metabolism beign slow make them short lived? Its the faster metabolisms that die quicker. Nautiloids live longer then squid; squid have a higher metabolism than nautiloids. Hummingbirds have a shorter ife span than owls; owls have a slower metabolism than hummingbirds. If it goes through life slower, it will generally go through life longer. Live fast, die young versus life slow, die old.

It doesn't, that was just a wild assumption I made due to the fact that they are blobby. They live really long, lern 2 read the whole thread.
