God caused the big bang and made man from apes to his image. The bible says about 6000 years ago, but that's because he thinks we're too stupid to count.

thats the right track.

god probably did what happend in the OP, because as good a idea s OP pic is, it required something to happen for the bang, otherwise nothing would have happend forever.

god just put alot of bullshit into the bible, because early man would not have understood something WE don't even understand now.

There is no God, you asshats. All of this isht is just random happenstance in a chemical spew.

I know you all think you're so wonderfully complex and smart and that life is just so incredible that it couldn't possibly just be RANDOM, but it is.
Human think that they're the shit, but they're nothing more than chemical components-- bacteria, if you will, that thrives in a mold that grows on the surface of a planet.

But hey if you need a crutch like some all knowing, all seeing diety who's standing in heaven, ruler in hand ready to smite or bless you for whatever you do, then hey. Have fun with that.
But really, isn't it time to grow out of those stories that they hammered into your heads in Sunday school? Why not just live, and live beautifully, and stop worrying about 'what it all means' or 'why we're all here' and all that nonsense; it doesn't make a hill of beans difference in the end anyway. There'll never be a deffinite answer among men, and even if there was one, there'd still be many individuals who would disreguard it and keep right on beleiving whatever they decided the answer was for themself.

What -is- real is the chair you're sitting in right now, the family and friends in your life, and the moldy ol' surface that you live on. That shit's solid. Its factual. Live in that, rather than all this dogma and theory bullhockey, and you'll find yourself much happier.

Lol, wut? There's a difference between a complete atheist and a fucking crazy churchy.

While most people with common sense don't actually believe Adam and Eve lived in a magic garden, Noah stopped a flood, God created the Earth in 7 days, etc, I think a lot of people believe we are more than just the consequence of growing from amoebas over a billion years.

Something can't come out of nothing, life can't start from something inanimate.
>> Anonymous
Actually you can start up life from something inanimate- 'life' is just a molecule capable of creating copies of itself. You can set up an experiment in any lab using nitrogen, ammonia et al, apply an electric current and make RNA. From there it's not that big a step to get DNA.

I agree though, the only things as bad as fundamentalist religious nuts are fundamentalist atheists...
>> Anonymous
>>57139
Haha, oh wow. Not a long step my ass.
>> Anonymous
I think what they're saying is that RNA is the *first* step into getting DNA. We know how to make RNA and can map its development into DNA (any genetists out there care to go into more detail? =/), so it isn't all that hard to see how DNA came about. It was inevitable that life appeared on our planet because of the conditions at the time- literally a primordal soup of certain chemicals and energy. There was nothing special about it popping up. Saying that God or a higher being randomly sparked it off is a lazy way of explaining things. That and we get stuck in the silly argument of who created God...
>> Anonymous
lol of course theres no god, but if people diden't belive in him, where would we get jesusess. and yes somthing can come from nothing, the big bang was a masive amount of energy built up and then inmpoding on itself due to the energy levels. this may have come from nucular fution.

>>Why not just live, and live beautifully

Ahahaha. You stupid faggot, you believe in ridiculous fantasies like "beauty"?

If you want to believe in magical qualities that makes things better then other things (that are both just pool’s of meaningless matter) like that then have fun. But really, isn't it time to grow out of those lesion plans that they hammered into your heads in art school? Stop worrying about 'what it beautiful' or 'why is it beautiful” and all that nonsense; it doesn't make a hill of beans difference in the end anyway. There'll never be a definite answer among men, and even if there was one, there'd still be many individuals who would disregard it and keep right on believing whatever they decided the answer was for themselves.

Just realize that reality is just a random collection of matter with no plan, reason, or beauty, you fucking fundie.

Getting back to the original topic, there are at least two competing views. Either there was no "before" before the big bang, since things exist only from the big bang onwards, or then there was a kind of "reverse universe" that imploded producing the big bang. Yeah, I never really got that either.

So what? the universe came from nothing? isn't that impossible? I'm not talking theoretical particles here, I mean a void, if you name it, its not there. And its impossible for something to always have existed.

not saying anything about creationism, just asking questions.. like when someone shows a new diagram about the 'quantum fluctuations' or reverse universes, you have to ask 'where did that come from' every time.

nothing can come to be in a void (see above remarks for void) and nothing can always have existed.

re: arguments of God's existence, brighter men than any of us still have issues proving one way or another if God exists or can exist. Simply put, no one knows either way. You can argue the teleological, there's a response to it. You can use Pascal's wager, there's a response to that. You can use a "betterment of soul" there's a response to that.

So the only recourse is to set the prospect of God aside -- still in view, but aside. We do not know God's existence, so we simply continue forth with the possibility.

Finally, I'm seeing many "Big Bang can't happen because..." with many potentially intelligent physics behind it. Unfortunately, the physics of Earth do not always apply to the physics of deep space.

Finally, to the person who said that Earth life cannot spring from nothing -- it didn't. RNA is both active and self-replicating. RNA is far from "nothing".

What 'science' says that everything is meaningless? That's the domain of philosophy.

Also, re: quantum fluctuations causing the universe>>57130
The idea that everything needs to have a cause is flawed. Check out Hume sometime. It's quite possible that there just was no cause of the big bang, quantum or anything.

I dont think so. From what I can gather (I'm a Mollecular biologist, my friend is the physicist) scientists mostly have their hands full of explaining existance from the big bang on. What hypotheses exist concerning before the big band are just potential explanations with no evidence yet (they are still designing experiments).

No in physics believes that there was "nothing" before the big bang. What you have to remember is that all our concepts of existance are wrapped up in the laws and characteristcs of this universe. These laws and characteristics may not apply to what is "outside". What may appear to be a void to us may simply be incomprehensible or inaccessible to science and experimentation (for now at least).

Impossible for something to have always existed? Why not? What if time is a property that only exists in ou universe and not in whatever the universe "exists" within? If there is no time as we know it then something by default may always exist, never exist, or something stranger. Or at higher levels of reality time may exist in a different mannar all together with all time being one time (think those weird aliens in the wormhole in ST:Deep space nine). All bets are off when changing those universal laws and characteristics that our senses and scientific instruments are completely dependant on.

ok, we have other 'things' that may have spawned our known universe, but where did they come from? I guess, science saying that either known or unknown 'things' are/have been eternal, is like professing a belief in a god to me.
>> Anonymous
>>57644
I love it when critics claim "science says this" and knock down their little straw man. Science doesn't talk. Research may show a result. Several studies may show a trend. The rigorous nature of testing and retesting lets 'science' refine itself into correctness the way that religion never can.

When things are 'unknown', they get researched. The periphery subjects are consulted. Sometimes entirely new books have to be written to drum up enough 'science' to even begin a quest to find these things out.

'Science' doesn't claim anything is 'eternal'. 'Scientists' are not by and large of one mind on anything. There are many theories - every single one is being scrutinized. Things that aren't being scrutinzed and picked apart are stagnant and dogmatic (like religion) and tend to fall into abuse or disuse.

Big Bang theory or not - at least 'science' is trying to find a rational ground for explaining the universe and not just relying on things written down centuries ago, untestable and gratis fictional escapes.

Computers were made with 'science' and engineering. I like it.
>> Anonymous
>>57655
and I LOL at your "OMG HE ASKED QUESTIONS HE MUST BE RETARD RELIGIOUS" response, and what makes you think he's anti-science just by challenging theories that don't offer a complete rationale rather than nod mindlessly and let other people ask?

through a faith I've wanted to and have volunteered at soup kitchens, homeless shelters, counseling centers, given my clothing, time and money to those that need it, and I'm happy. I also have a lot of faith in science and look forward to more discoveries about the history of the universe and those that help humankind, I accept basic truths of the scientific method and adjust my beliefs accordingly.. do I believe in a 5000 year old earth? no, do I believe in evolution? yes, its processes are visible even today with many species.

you on the other hand seem to sneer at anyone who thinks different than you and label them idiots for even considering anything else. You're acting as bad as you say those fukkin republican conservatives do, and some people follow science as if it WERE a religion. Just ask anyone who supported the idea of space exploration before the russians got up there first, a scientist would have lost their reputation because pigheaded stuffed shirts made science as bad as organized religion, and still do to some extent.

so STFU, its obvious humanity still has some need to make spirituality a part if existance because people are even creating new cults and sects every day, so you can be a logical person and deal with differing thought processes.

i have to say that i can't believe in the big bang theory. if there truly was one sinlge spot filled with fuckloads of energy which then rapidly started expanding, woudln't all particles fly away from the centre at the same speed, every particle the same distance from another, just infinitely expanding and possibly finally coming back. they wouldn't stick together to form protons, neutrons or anything. they would never touch since they would be dragged to every direction with the same force, since they would be equally spaced from each other, because that's just how things work when you pack them tightly together and then let them explode.

don't get me wrong though, i don't believe in god either, at least in the way most religions explain it.

Call me crazy, but I'm willing to believe that physicists that have spent their entire coureers studying the beginning of the universe have some idea of what they're saying. Or at least a lot more than your average non-physicist. The same way I'm willing to believe a plumber knows more about plumbing than me, and a surgeon knows more about surgery than me.

Science changes the more we know about things

at least in theory, sometimes new ideas and progress are being hampered by peer pressure who right off all new discoveries as hogwash

For instance, there was a time where scientist flat out denied magnetism as quackery. Now we know that it does indeed exist.
>> Anonymous
>>57874

We aren't living in the 17th century anymore, bobby. Science builds upon old work, physics especially. Newton's mechanics are still accurate enough to be widely used. Einstein didn't understand the quantum world but you don't see his theories dismissed today. When the next big theory comes along, it's not going to invalidate these works, it will merely expand upon them.

Point being, we are pretty damn sure that the "big bang" happened, since there is no real alternative to explain the evidence. Right now the major questions being asked are how and why, not whether it happened at all.
>> Anonymous
science is the closest thing to truth we have. the big bang theory obeys all natural laws, and with the exception of where the origonal seed energy/mass came from (likely a quantum teleportation, where mass or energy suddenly appears in our universe), it's all pretty much fact.

deal with it.
