Wait, are people saying I fail because I got the name wrong? I knew it was a Matamata turtle. My post was a play on words.

Mudada sounds like MataMata. Muda means wasteful/useless in Japanese. I was referencing Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and Dio Brando's ZA WARUDO. In his attack he screams "mudamudamudamuda-da" meaning basically that it's useless for them to fight back.

The Matamata surprises and devours fish by waiting and then when a fish comes along, it opens its mouth wide quickly, creating a vacuum due to difference in pressure that sucks the fish in. The fish is given no chance or way to escape. It's "useless" for the fish to fight back. "Mudada turtle."

I cannot believe I had to explain my joke to you idiots.

Okay.

How easy is it to acquire these, or are they illegal, or what? Basically, what's the deal with them pet-wise?

It's easy to get them they aren't illegal

Even if that's true you fail for thinking it would be funny to anyone and not keeping it to yourself.

>>240445
They're not hard to acquire but they tend to cost at least a few hundred dollars and, to my knowledge, aren't commonly bred in captivity so you'll need to be aware of potential parasites. They also require specific husbandry and while not extremely complicated, you'll want to have done your homework.

Also, as most other turtles, they get fairly big. I believe you need to have a pond or at least 200g tank for one.
Fuck, I wish there was a turtle that would feel happy in a 10g tank.
>> Anonymous
In fact, none of them can. Tortoises are the ones on land.

lol, no, only 75 or 80 gallons. They're fairly sedentary and don't really move about. Most of that size has to be in length and width, not depth, since they don't swim and the water has to be shallow enough to poke their head out of. A pond would probably kill them as they require a very low pH and water in the high 70's to mid 80's.

Well, box turtles and various other non-tortoise chelonians do okay so long as it's damp, though they do need a good soak on occasion.
