sup /an/, I've got a question

My cat has been licking two areas of his fur profusely, like they're itchy or agitated. The first area is his lower back just above the tail, and the second just behind his shoulders. Can you guys offer any advice? My belief is that it could be allergic reaction to food, or mange or something.

As always, pic unrelated.

In before "go to fucking vet."
I'm too tired and hot to think clearly right now, but those spots are places where you would put those single-drop flea/worm treatments. They are poisonous and not as safe as the companies make them out to be. My old cat died 6 weeks after putting that shit on him for the first time. Licking that crap off would harm him and my cat had local fur loss.

Thank you for the input, I'll keep it in mind when I decide what we can do for my cat. In the meantime, I'll definitely consider a trip to the vet.
Also, I apologize, I hadn't realized I uploaded a pic of such an unhappy-looking cat.

you should also look up "hot spots" and see if it matches your problem. Sometimes an animal will get an itch and chew/scratch it a bit too much--like any scab or hairless patch, it gets itchy and causes more cratching and chewing. you can get some "Bitter Apple" from any pet store, dab it on the spots, and the animal will usually stop chewing on it and allow it to heal.

My dog tends to get a hot spot on his leg around Springtime each year for some odd reason. Every time I catch it, I Bitter Apple the spot several times a day and it goes away. (he hates it when he sees that bottle come out of the pantry tho X-D)

One of my cats has had a problem pretty similar to what you just described so aside from go to the fucking vet, I can tell you to use some of this stuff.

Most of the time there is going to be a fair amount of chewing with the licking that you probably wouldn't notice. Coating the areas in this or most other medicated salves often relieves the areas enough that the animal isn't bothered by them nearly enough to pay them much more attention than any other part of their body. Otherwise it sounds like your cat is going to eventually bald themselves in those areas.
