Oriental Shorthair Anonymous
Hey /an/, I want one of this breed, any words of advice?

Oriental breeds in general are slightly more jumpy than other breeds. If they're anything like bengals or siamese, they'll be LOOOOUD mothafuckas too. Big "talkers". Very lovely though, I prefer the wild looking "wedge" shaped heads, etc. myself.

My cat isn't an Oriental breed but still goes BAAAAWWWW like one. She only does it at the end of the hall for maximum echo and loudness. I've never heard a cat meow as much as this one. She also meows and purrs at the same making this creaky door sound.

True. My cat's a Siamese douchebag. When he needs to use the litterbox, he'll fucking meow until someone gets up and opens the door for him. If we don't get up he'll run around, scratch or a combination of both.

I used to work at an animal shelter and we rescued a couple of these. Sweetest cats I've ever met. Our theory was that they had such thin hair that they were always freezing and therefore wanted to cuddle. I'd say check around for a breed rescue (sometimes Siamese rescues have this breed) before getting a kitten, you'll save yourself a lot of money and help one of them out :) Ours took a long time to get adopted because most people don't like the way they look, because they're so skinny and wirey and angular - people like fat cats :P
