Can anyone identify this snake? It was found in my house in Northern Georgia, USA. I would like to know what it is before I show the picture to Mom but none of the websites I have visited have been useful. Please help!

Kinda looks like those baby black racers I've been seeing the last few weeks, but I live in Idaho so I doubt thats what they are.

Actually I just looked it up Georgia's species of snakes and it would seem that you guys have eastern black racers while we have northern black racers. So a baby eastern black racer would be my guess. If I'm right they're harmless no venom of any kind. Although I'd still be careful as apparently they're quick to bite if they feel threatened.

Op here.
Going from the hint of baby black racers, I found a shot of a baby black rat snake someone took.

Very similar,eh? The big black rat snakes are the 4+ foot long climbing snakes always lying in the middle of the road and getting run over all the time. Thanks for the hint 31589!

Op again. By the way, caught the little bugger after twenty min. of chasing behind furniture than let him lose across the street in a cow field near a small group of trees. He should be o.k. and roommate would have freaked if she found out I let him loose on the property. Thanks again for your help!

Ah good to hear anon, he'll have plenty of mice and other things to keep him happy there. And I'm happy I could help albeit only a little. Thank you for not freaking out and killing him like half the people out here would. Although now you've gotten me curious about which one he is exactly he could be either a racer or a rat snake just by looking at him to me. Any snake savy people have an opinion?
