Hey /an/, what do you think about skookums?
>> Anonymous
I think he should maul his owner for giving him such a dumbass name.

It's a breed of cat, not a name.

LOL
I read it as "snookums"

And another...
>> Anonymous
ugly, stupid selected genetic mutation.
>> Anonymous
>>157896
you DO realize that a lot of cats are genetically mutated don't you? Lots and lots of selective breeding to achieve perfect markings.

This breed of cat screams "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD KILL ME!"

There's a big difference between having coat markings and having mutated limbs.
>> Anonymous
I don't like short-legged dogs just because they remind me of amputees, but at least dachshunds have those legs for the purpose of getting in to burrows. Mutating an animal like this for NO REASON besides "cuteness" is fucking ridiculous. Jumping and climbing is such a big part of cat's daily lives, how the hell do these things get around?
>> Anonymous
>>157924
"Cuteness" is the only reason why Dachsunds are still around (and very popular). We genetically engineer everything around us. Cows that produce too much milk, strawberries that don't freeze, golden rice. This shit isn't new.
>> Anonymous
>>157939
The fact it isn't new makes it less of a hinderance to the cat's natural way of living?
>> Anonymous
It is now a cat version of a Dachsund. It can probably get around as well as they can. It'll be able to climb stairs and most likely hop up onto a couch. Unless its way of life is Mario World it'll probably be ok.
>> Anonymous
>>157949
Cats have a natural inclination for being up high and jumping on to things. Have you ever seen a fucking dog condo or dog carpeted tree? No, but you see them for cats. Something with legs a few inches long couldn't do what normal cats do every day. Why the hell should people take something that intrinsic in cats away from them for the sake of being "cute"?

LISTEN UP YOU FUCKERS, OUT OF THE 9 THREADS ON THE FIRST PAGE OF /an/ 7 ARE CAT RELATED, HOW MANY CAT THREADS DO WE NEED AT ONE TIME? !?

Clearly, you haven't had the annoyance of a bloody cat that won't come out of a tree.

It's a naturally occuring genetic condition, other cats have had it before, and as I understand it, the only skookum you can get is a "crossbreed" with a normal cat. It's not as though people actually selectively bred shorter-legged cats generation by generation.

Yeah, that's a really bright idea. Let's support and propagate a mutation that's lethal in its homozygotic form! Yay!

Yeah, I mean, we'd never do that in any other situation.

... Most mutations, including white coats on animals are. Do you want to go kill off all white coated animals? Be my guest.
>> Anonymous
>>158013
That's the whole other debate of keeping your cats inside. You fail to address the fact that it handicaps the animal. Just because it occurred "naturally" doesn't mean it should be encouraged. Humans are born with fucked up limbs sometimes, too.
>> Anonymous
>>158136
Are you retarded or just a bit slow? Nobody was talking about killing. We were talking about NOT FUCKING KEEPING THAT MUTATION ALIVE BY SELECTIVE BREEDING! Just stop producing more of the fucking things.
>> Anonymous
>>158181
Agreed. For the ones that already exist, try to help them live as full of a life as they can with their deformities, but don't let them breed. Traits that inhibit an animal's quality of life or health should be allowed to die out and NOT encouraged through breeding for it.

Of course, all these fucks are just going to look for every way possible to justify wanting these unfortunate cats, so they'll probably listen to breeders who say "they're totally fine living on the ground and waddling around, lols!"
>> Anonymous
...Why do all these cats have snaggly whiskers?

For the same reason kids with downs syndrome have weird faces.

Comes with that coat quality.

It appears that you and the rest of 4chan are looking and the picture and going "oh god that poor cat is deformed and crippled" without doing any research as to how the cats actually act physically and mentally.

Munchkin type cats are only slightly limited in their jumping abilities, in that they have no issues jumping on to furniture, but probably couldn't make it to your kitchen counter or other really high perches that some cats can reach. Similarly, because of their cobby bodies, Persian cats also have similar jumping abilities. They do not experience the back issues that short legged dogs do, do to the cats' extremely flexible spine. Unlike the genes that cause dwarfism in people, this appears to only affect the length in their legs, and everything else is relatively normal and proportionate. There have been reports of Lordosis, an excessive dip in the spine behind the shoulders, that is genetic, but is somewhat rare and also occurs in other, normal leg, cat breeds. By all accounts they are normal cats, albeit with short legs. This is no different then breeding for short faces, long or curly coats, or bob-tails in other breeds.

tl;dr researh LOL

To compare, so called "twisty cats" or "kangaroo cats" are deformed to the point that they can't function as a normal cat would and often cannot walk without significant pain.

You're still forgetting or ignoring the fact that two copies of that mutant allele mean the cat is going to die. That's mother nature's way of saying "this was a bad idea, let's all forget about it."
>> Anonymous
>>158542

That's the same with most white-coated animals, retard. Do you practice what you preach and actually read the thread?
