Lost kitty Anonymous
Hello /an/.

Yesterday I took my kitty to the vet. Left here there 'cause 1) they didn't do what I asked them to (wash her and cut her hair) 2) they were too busy at the time to make her ready. And today they called to tell me that she was gone. The cage she was in had a hole -a really ugly cage btw- in which she slipped in (they cages are in a backyard). They say it happened during the night 'cause when they arrived in the morning she wasn't there.

Thing is I love my kitty and all day I've been crying over her. The main vet (the owner of the 'clinic') seems concerned about this but it's no help. They say they've been looking around for her all day. But at no avail. They're willing to do anything to gratificate me for my loss.

My question is what do I do? I can sue them, but seems too much and getting another cat is out of the question. I really love my kitty and all I want is get her back :( I've decided to put flyer's around. Still I'm unsure about what to do about the 'clinic'.

Pic related.

You have broken a sacred bond of trust by attempting to get a haircut for your cat, now it's her turn for revenge!

That.. that SUCKS.

Keep looking, post flyers. Also submit letters to your local newspapers about your experience. People need to know that the clinic has this problem.

>Also submit letters to your local newspapers about your experience. People need to know that the clinic has this problem.

I agree. I mean how blind must they have been to put her in a cage with a big enough hole in it? Thats horrible care. And for one thing they shouldn't be outside like that. If it's a real clinic their pets should be inside or in some kind of building. I call bullshit.

Sue them.

OP here.

Do you think perhaps they did it on purpose? I mean, when we picked her up the first time we were really angry. They hadn't cut her hair and made us wait for like 20mins just to tell us that they just bathed her. They told us she would be ready 2 hours earlier but we decided (and we told them!) to pick her up later. To give them enough time. It came to the point in which they told us the service would be free.

Also, not to be a showoff, but my kitty is very cute. When the vet she was melting the first time she saw her.

Maybe I'm being paranoid but it's a possibility =/

>>102648
A friend of mine told me I should do that. So that other owners don't go through the same. It's really painful ._.

>>102641
Well, some long haired cats like to be shaved down...they ca be more comfortable that way.

But anyway....where do you live? You should try to find out if they've broken laws, etc. Pursue this to the fullest. They don't deserve to operate if they can't take proper care of animals. Mistakes are one thing; that is just unbelievably irresponsible.

Definitely do not discount the possibility that someone stole her. I work at an animal shelter, and I've heard a few cases of people whose cats/dogs have been stolen (though your circumstances are unique).

Try talking to your local animal control, they might be able to help you.

Well I can't tell if they did it just to spite you or what. How many times have you gone there? If this is more than the third time with problems you should have stopped going there in the first place.

1) Keep searching for kitty
2) Sue their asses and alert media.
3) ????
4) Profit.

this reminds me of what happened to my friend. she dropped her tortie kitten off at the vet for a flea bath/vaccines. there was another tortie cat at the vet's office at the time that was a euthanasia request.

the new vet on staff euthanized my friend's 1 year old cat instead of the decrepit old euth request tortie.

her family was upset, but they didn't try to sue or anything since it was a (horrible and sad) mistake.

honestly though, in your case the fact that they keep the animals outside where they have a risk of getting lose is completely unacceptable. in that kind of environment they should assume that they'll have lose cats, so the facility should be properly fenced off. or better yet INSIDE.

i agree that you should PRESS CHARGES and milk them for all they're worth. with any luck you'll shut the place down.

Sue people for all their worth because they lost your cat?!?!?!? What the hell are you people on. It's a pet and i know pets mean a lot to people I have several but it's not something you should be putting before peoples wellbeing. Obviously if the vet has such bad conditions then they are most likely already short on money and space. I know a lot of vets in the area and they are definatley not vets for the money but because they love animals and want to help them. I think what happend to your cat was just an accident and they are trying to help. Nowadays people sue over the tinyest things because thats what your supposed to do right. This coffee is too hot give me 10 million dollars because of the mental anguish I suffered through is irreversable? Sueing something should be left to when they intentionally do something to harm you or destroy your property and it should be done for the actual value of the property not outrageous ammounts of money. I think what you need to do is make some flyers and i know there are some websites where people post lost pet notices and i have returned 4 dogs, 3 cats and even a snake this way. If you don't trust that vet anymore thats fine but i think the most likely reasons were because they were busy and because they are underfunded. I would say you check back in a month and see if anything has improved and if they did then they really tried to help you but they just couldn't and if not call the people at the animal cruelty department and have them look at the facilities to see if they are up to par or not. But sueing them is just a selfish way to get money.

Its what you get for being a dick. Sometimes places get really busy and shit happens like when someone calls in sick so there is 1 person instead of 2. So they agreed to give you their services for free and you probably said some sly smartass remark like "Its better be free after this!"
I bet when you go to get food you complain ALL the time. Shit happens, thats all there is to it. You probably had to go and make someones day worse and they either mistakenly put the cat there or deliberately put the cat in there.
I bet after reading that you would be pretty angry and pissed. Now you know how that person you bitched at feels. There is no reason to be a dick unless it involves life or death situations and you chose poorly on who to piss off

but... after reading the post he responded to, I believe you may have been victim of your own carelessness in terms of providing proper restraint for your cat in addition to potential passive aggressive behavior from some employees there.

I don't know you personally, so your angry tiffs could be minimal or extreme so I don't wanna judge. But if people are housing your pet or you intend for them in order to provide services, it's best to befriend the staff working there.

Um, yeah good luck with whatever you choose to pursue in this.

Wow, I'm an asshole, and even I don't fuck with people's pets. If this is true here is what you do:

1) stop crying, complaining, and being a whiny bitch. it will get you nowhere, and wastes time you could spend saving your sweetypie
2) Ask to see all records they have for your cat. Any vet worth their salt has a form that owners must sign in order to have procedures done on their pet that states who is responsible in cases like this. They should also have records of what they did and when. If they don't, that's a really good basis for legal action, and may actually be criminal in nature (i'm not exactly certain if they are required to have a lisence to treat animals, or what it would fall under. Another thing you might want to look up)
3) Ask to see the cage wher she was kept. It might have been a hole small enough that they reasonablly thought she couldn't get out, but keeping her outside when they were suppose to bathe and clip her is just.. stupid. What if they had put in there a cat that had never been outside except to get in&out of a car?
4)Ask to look for her on their property. Ask neighboring business if you can look around for her. If the vet refuses to let you look, that is a pretty good sign the "oops she got loose" is a lie. Talking to those around will give you info if they have "lost" pets before, or you may actualy find her

Hope this helps. Please take your pet to a groomer, not a vet, where you wont' pay horrible amounts of money and lose your animal.

>>If it's a real clinic their pets should be inside or in some kind of building. I call bullshit.

Seriously. Either this story is made up, you live in an incredibly rural and poor area, or you aren't terribly responsible via using a vet office that keeps animals in cages in the backyard.
>> Anonymous
I have heard of cases where cats found back to their owners over miles and miles of distance, without ever having been there before. Did you have her for a long time or was she only recently born / purchased?
>> Anonymous
I would want to have a look at the cage and the surrounding property.

OP here.

>>102696
Actually I was trying a new vet. The place didn't seem so bad at first. It looked like a new business in an old building. I saw

the cage when kitty was gone. I looked around to see the hole and I must admit that it was difficult to see. But rather

noticeable. They claim that they've put animals in there before and this is the first time they've lost one.

>>102704
>>102706
It was more like a passive anger and we weren't shouting nor anything like that. It was their initiative to give us the service

free of charge. Even though I must admit it was really stupid to leave kitty there after such thing.

>>102707
You have a point. I've been acting like a baby crying over my kitty instead of doing something about it (besides of numerous

calls to the clinic, a visit to them trying to find my kitty). I'll put flyers and keep searching for kitty until I find her.

I'm so worried. She's never been to that area and I really miss her...

>>102714
We've had her for four years. Around the house she would go out for three days and would come back. I really do hope this

happens even though she definitely doesn't know that place.

OP here again.

Thank you very much for your opinions. I won't sue them because they're really trying to help me out (I've already did what>>102707suggests and they've been helping us. We asked the neighbors around the block and the vet had already told them. The vet even went up the building helping look for her).
. Also because they definitely wouldn't be able to handle it -as I said before it's a new veterinary. Hardly two to three years old-. I'll look for kitty via flyers and Lost Pet ads in newspaper. Last, but not less important, I'm going to alert other pet owners about this place. It's irresponsible to leave the poor animals outside and the place is not fit for such a trade. Sure, they've made some arrangements -like putting a shade over the animals and a cooler around the cages. But the cages themselves are in a very poor state (old, oxidized). And the cages SHOULDN'T be left outside, specially if they're going to shelter animals. If I had noticed all this, I wouldn't have left kitty there in the first place.
>> Anonymous
Keep looking, OP. When I lost my cat once, I papered the neighborhood and called her name with no luck. Seven days later I went walking down the street, called her name, and immediately found her. She was much closer to my house than I expected. I'd read that they'll come to your voice- my cat meowed back when I found her- so be sure to call out and listen as you search.
>> Anonymous
I'd sue their ass. People sue for emotional damage after falling down, for christ sakes, losing a pet is MUCH more emotionally harmful. At least alert the media and let other people know it's dangerous to leave a pet there.

Being bitched at by a customer sucks, but it's a million times worse to lose a pet. I don't see how people can even compare the two.
>> Anonymous
That SUCKS. Sorry for you loss. I hope she comes back home!

I would keep at the vet, and post fliers in the area. Definitely tell your friends and family not to use them. When the clinic asks you what you want as compensation, make them get rid of those cages - like someone else mentioned, it makes no sense to keep an animal outside if it was there to be groomed. If you can't get your cat back, maybe you can at least keep this from happening to someone else.
>> Anonymous
this should be a good lesson learned about microchipping. It's a requirement now that non-profit shelters scan all incoming pets for a chip, as well as by LAW all research facilities of incoming specimen. Should she be found, this would expedite her return to you.

I'm sorry she's lost... I say sue their asses, shut them down. they have NO BUSINESS running a shanty fly-by-night operation like that. Vets take an OATH: first do no harm. How is keeping wet animals in cages OUTSIDE good for them? Unsupervised, unsecured... it's an absolute outrage.

That picture and the story makes me sad..I hope you find your cat. D: If anything, be glad you have pictures of her. Good luck. :(

Hello again /an/. It's the OP

In the clinic they have these beautiful female cats around. They're around the same age as my kitty and have had the same surgeries (claws clipped, hair cut and won't have babies). Since they lost my kitty, my family wants to take one. And until they can find mine, we'll return it.

I don't like this idea very much, specially because of the other kitty. But my family says this is to push further the clinic in finding my baby. If she doesn't appear, we'll keep the other cat.

BTW I've already informed my friends and family (the page in the link is to my story). All that's left is to put fliers.

claws clipped? as in declawed? uh-oh... someone's going to comment on that other than me. lol
>> Spyffe
>>102953
Just my 2 cents, but that's a bad idea.

Once you have their cat they think they've done right by you and their responsibilities are complete.

A cat is worth much less than potential bad publicity. Don't go for any halfway deals because they have a way of becoming permanent.
>> Anonymous
>>102955
clipping claws is different than declawing please use your brain.

I seriously question the health of these office cats. What you don't want to have happen is introduce a Feline Leukemia or FIV positive cat into your house and "Oops, hello! Here comes Kitty #1."

And by taking the deal of a temporary cat, you are not only accepting in unspoken terms that they have resolved this issue, but you are also letting them get off on such a pathetic attempt at simple animal care.

GO PUBLIC. Even if your family doesn't want you to, send in an anonymous tip to the paper. Or better yet, give the story to your local TV branch, they love dirty scandals like this.
>> Anonymous
OP, you sound fucking retarded.

Even if you're not going to sue, go back and take pictures and then report the clinic to the SPCA and local news.

For all you know, they may have stolen/sold your cat and are bullshitting you. And if it was genuine negligence and incompetence that resulted in the loss of your cat, they deserve punishment.
>> Anonymous
Go back and comb the area around dawn (or when she is usually fed.) Most likely she is scared and does not know what to do. Most cats stay in the area they were lost in. Check at the local shelters to see if she was picked up/brought in.

You do have a valid right to sue or report the incident to the local authorities. The facility you took her to should not have boarded her outside due to an increased risk of exposure to pathogens. They put her in harms way, especially if they knew about the hole in the cage. WTF?

Find another vet. These people are obviously incompetent!

Don't worry about that. I'm trying my best to pass the word about this place. Alerting not only my family and friends, but also people from nearby establishments. I'm not going to sue them, but at least I'm going to give out the reputation this place deserves.

I stopped reading less than halfway through, this is unbelievably fucking pathetic on your part. If you have to ask whether or not you should pursue legal action you don't deserve to get your cat back, you indecisive, whining little shit. You probably acted like a total cunt because they hadn't groomed her properly when you asked them too, and now that the cat's gone, so is what little bark you had. Fucking pitiful.
