Budgies... Anonymous
Hey /an/.

I found a budgie outside a week ago. I took her in, gave her a cage, etc. No one responded to the FOUND BIRD ads I put up, none of the exotic bird shelters that I left my number with called, etc, so I am keeping her.

I recently bought her two friends since I know they are a very social species. However, the "wild"/unknown one is a complete and total bitch. All she does is cause drama. extremely territorial.

If Budgies do not get along at first, will they ever? Am I better off separating them or giving the problem one to someone else?

Pic related. The yellow one is the "found" one, the teal is from PetCo.

you say "her," you sure it is a female?

Two girls will get along, a boy and a girl will get along alright, and two boys is a bad idea.

Yeah, the beak is a pale pink. The two pictured are female, the third one is a small male. The two bought birds (both from different PetCos) seem to get along alright.

So it's 2 females and one 1 male in this cage.

well, that might be your problem there mmate. I'm not sure two females will get along with a male thrown in the mix. Meh, who knows?

younger budgies often pick on older ones
maybe your found girl is younger than the others
she's probably freaking too, because she's in a totally new environment with strange birds around her.

This is my fantasy.

I had the exact same problem with my two lovebirds; I've separated them since.

Forgot to write that birds have distinct personalities. Some will be assholes all the time...

Some budgie hens are total bitches, and have to be "top-dog" as it were.. give them time to settle; I had a budgie hen who beat the crap out of any other bird introduced, but she would calm down once they all got their pecking order (haha) established.

I'd only separate them if it looks like they're just NOT going to settle together, after a lengthy period of time. Good luck, OP!

Pic related, the grey&white budgie is the old hen in question, Wooster. She died a year ago (age 12), I miss that crazy old bitch.

Also, for what it's worth if you want to venture to other birds and don't like the extra work or noise cross off finches and parrots/macaws/lovebirds.

lawls, pecking order.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be a "they settle with time" situation. Based on what I've read, she appears to have a few years of age on the other two.

Guess I'll give her a good month or so, if she's still bitching out at everyone I might have to veto her off the island.

Almost every female budgie I've had has been a bitch. Only one was mild-mannered until you messed with her, and that was the one that got a mate. I thought that was funny.
