Greetings /an/,

I was just wondering something. If humans can have incest then could animals? If so which?

I think most cheetahs are inbred.

Most pure breeds of dogs have genetic problems because of inbreeding.

dogs, duh, they breed like crazy and seem to have no problem with incest

rats, if you keep two in a cage until they breed and inbreed they will start eating their young even if there's enough food to go around.

how about ALL animals? Animals don't really discriminate between siblings, I don't think a bear is about to go 'WAIT THIS IS MY SISTER.'
I think the factor would be more the situation, not the species. If you limit pretty much any animal- its going to breed with its relatives. Like cheetas, which are slim in number, or selective breeding.

ive read our wolfs are getting too inbread because of there being too few of them, the inbreading make them weak so they get diseases and risk extinction in the long run

Uh... all animals? Do you think there's some kind of natural law that stops them from breeding with their siblings?

In the wild it's unusual because there's so much space and so many other animals to compete with, so it's unlikely, out of all the possible mates and all of the space they have to roam, that they'll hook up with their sister or brother. But, in domestication, it's common for animal breeders to "backbreed." In Straight Egyptian Arabians, for example, I have yet to see a pedigree without some degree of incest.

there is actually. studies have been done that show when sibling mammals grow up together, they become conditioned not to become attracted to each other. there even get somewhat repulsed by the odor of one another. it even applies to humans...
