I could never own one. They have to bathe in dust, right? Yeah, too much work.

But they ARE adorable.

Its not that bad, only once-thrice a week and it takes a second.

Though it depends on where you live... if its really humid, twice a day might be necessary

You realize to make that hat for you, they had to electrocute like seven chinchillas up the ass, right?

All you do is buy a bath house and put dust in it, then they'll do the work themselves. If the room you keep them in is small, then it will just get a little extras dusty throughout the week.

wait what is this dust bath thing?

Go to youtube.
Type "chinchilla dust bath" into the search box.
Done!

Chinchillas like to "bathe" in dust. When you buy it at a pet store it is a light gray powder or it can come in a sand form. Powder is better. They do not and should not bathe in water because being in wet conditions for too long will cause them to mold.

geez. no wonder their fur is so expensive.

It's not really a pain in the butt. The bath house stays in her cage, but I clean that and he cage once a week. Both rabbits and chinchillas like to chew on anything that is wooden and pretty much anything they can chew on. I've had a rabbit and even though I loved him I think a chinchilla is a better pet. They have more of a personality, do not smell, and mine sleeps through the night if I let her out before I go to bed. If you have a lot of time for a pet then I would suggest a chin.

It depends on the chinchilla each one has different tastes. However, it is not very good for them so I wouldn't give them cheese.

Pet stores usually have them.

And might I suggest Chin-ka-bob. Chinchilla on a stick. Tastes great.

Considering the price of pet chinchillas ($150-$200 here), you may want to make sure you make an elegant gourmet meal out of it.
