Making pets out of vermin Anonymous
Hey lizard fags,

I just caught an Indonesian barking gecko in my house, a feral and highly invasive species. The problem is that it's really quite cute, the blasted thing, so I can't bring myself to kill it like a good little environmentalist. I've decided to make a pet out of it as a type of crash course in keeping lizards. I have it in a largish plastic container and I'll be able to buy a proper aquarium in a couple of days. In the meantime, how shall I feed and water it?

Pic related; it's the same species as the one on the right, or something physically very similar.

make sure it has a heat source, lamp or w/e could do for a temporary thing till you get an aquarium with heating pad, and makes sure some of the area it's in is kept cool so it can regulate its body temp, put a small bowl of water that in there with it, and find some insects it can eat that are appropriate in size, a few crickets or small grasshoppers should be good for a couple days until you get something more permanent setup.

sweet. small bugs and dish of water as other guy said. Be sure to get a heat source. You won't need UV since geckos are nocturnal, couple plants and you should be alright

remember to buy calcium dust to put on your crickets, op. It's cheap at any pet store that sells reptile supplies and if you're unsure of the nutritional content of the bugs you're catching, it's a great way to make sure your gecko is getting enough calcium and D3 to prevent things like metabolic bone disease.

????????

why the fuck would you kill a gecko to begin with?

OP here, thanks for the advice. I guessed that I'd need everything you've suggested, but I was a bit iffy on a heat lamp given they're a night species and they're practically indestructable besides.

Learn to read, you halfwit. 'Feral and highly invasive species', meaning Indonesidan barking geckos aren't native to my continent and they're wiping out/out competing with the native species of geckos and smaller skinks. Besides, the filthy little bastards get inside your house and shit on everything. Larger ones have crap the size of mouse droppings.
