Maybe OP's cat is narcoleptic.

My cat jumps every time someone takes a step even in the same room, it gets kind of annoying when he's sleeping in the middle of the floor, I'm walking across the room to the kitchen and all of a sudden I have a lightninbolt of fur in my feet going "MEAAWFdsaljkfg"
