ITT pug Anonymous
Hay /an/, I'm thinking of getting a pug when I get enough money for it.
So in the meantime tell me things about pugs to ease my babyfever. Like your own experienses of pugs and so on. And pictures are always welcome too.

They're a pain in the ass to take care of and can cost a fortune in vet bills, they also have to have their face cleaned daily

Pain in the ass to take care of? Why? And I knew their faces needs to be cleaned every day.
>> Anonymous
They breathe really loud. Kind of raspy.
>> wolfdaddy
our black pug had to have surgery when he was about 2 months old for his breathing
they clipped out a little bit of his soft palate, and he hasn't had a sinus infection since. he's two now
if we ever get any type of bulldog or another boston terrier we will probably do the same; real quick procedure about like having one's tonsils out i imagine

Well, my childhood friend has english bulldog and she says that those dogs are the most expensive ones in the end. At least in here (Finland) they cost about 1500 euros or more, if you buy it from a really good breeder. + they get all kinds of infections and stuff really easily, and taking them to vet every now and then isnt very cheap.

I'd get english bulldog if they were cheaper and wouldnt get infections that easily (+they cant reach their butts, so they need butt cleaning after every walk)
So because of that I'd want a pug. I know that they get infections between those wrinkles on their face easily, but keeping them clean helps alot.

Also I'd like to hear peoples experienses of their personality

FUCKIN HATE PUGS

As a pug owner all I have to say is, DONT GET ONE. I have never had so many problems with a dog in my life. Mine has had hotspots, the worst flea problem, oh and a tumor on his foot. They are good dogs but way too much work.
>> Anonymous
>>153624
if (s)he got hotspots maybe you just live in too hot place for pugs? And fleas, well any dog can get them, so its not really just because it was a pug.
And any dog can get a tumor, not only pugs. So I'd say that you just had bad luck.

Oh, and what other dogs have you had then?

I've had pugs all my life, absolutely love them. They need a bit of maintenance but it's not that bad. They're very well mannered, never had to worry about my furniture getting fucked up or anything like that.

I have one, they're cute but stupid as hell. It's 3 years old and still shits in the house.

My dog used to pee on the floor every night if I forgot to take her into my room before goinng to sleep.

And maybe you just failed at teaching her/him to make things outside.

And I like stupid dogs. Have been watching wideos of stupid pugs at youtube

Also if I get a pug it will be a friend of our old lady (poodle/Bichon Frisé) who's almost 9. So I was thinking if I should get a female or male? I'd want a male, because I havent ever had one + I think that our old lady would like a male friend more. But I dont want those 2 to have puppies and short haired male dogs look a bit wrong to me because their ballz are too visible. And castrating a dog costs pretty much.

If you're not going to get it fixed, stop thinking about getting another dog, immediately.

"fixed"? and why, could you explain yourself?

http://www.hsus.org/pets/pet_care/why_you_should_spay_or_neuter_your_pet.html

remove the balls.

We have a pug, got him from a rescue. he is 9 years old now (got him a year ago) he is very very nice. he just likes to sit around, be pet, and hang around people. Pugs are very much people dogs, and can gave problems in really high heat. almost all of them are indoor dogs.

http://www.pugvillage.com/

that site has a lot of good advice. read the faqs.

Problems you should plan for:
Cataracts (almost all pugs develop them)
hip and spine problems (the are stocky and have short legs, lots of small dogs have these problems)
snorting, lots and lots of snorting and SNORING.

They dont have snouts, so they pant alot and make a lot of funny noises because of their face . Its cute, but can be a problem (some pugs get surgery to remove part of their palette so the can breath)

also, you dont need to clean their wrinkles everyday, it depends on what your dog does. if you have a dog that likes to get wet and root around in mud, then yes. but a lazy dog that doesnt dick around outside much, then monthly.

yeah, I have heard that some people clean them just few times a week
>> tigerfeather !CrwtTbFNxQ

It really depends on how extensively your Pug's face is wrinkled. Some Pugs that aren't bred quite to standard (aka backyard breeding) usually will have less wrinkles than up to par dogs. The wrinkles cause moisture to build up due to lack of air flow on the skin, which causes bacterial/fungal infections. It's really gross to have Pugs with yeast infections on the face, but it happens. And it stinks pretty badly, too.

It would be like if you didn't clean your groin folds.
