Spiny mouse, yo.
You can find these guys at some pet stores, and most can order them even if they do not have any on hand.
They are a desert species, so they urinate very little. I kept three in a 20 gallon long aquarium and only had to change the bedding every month as long as I scooped out the corner they used as a toilet once a week. They do not smell at all! They are also pleasant-tempered and handleable... not to mention really damn cute, since they have fox-like faces.
If you want a herp, ignore all of the morons who say to get a damn iguana. They can grow up to 6 feet long, not exactly ideal for aquarium life. Plus, the males can develop nasty tempers. I second the recommendation for bearded dragons, as they stay comparably small and mild-mannered.
Also, whatever animal you get, make sure to do research beforehand so you know the proper care, housing, food, etc.
