hey /an/, I'm living on my own and I can't have a cat or a dog. I want a small, furry, cuddley pet that is okay to stay home while I'm at school all day. I've considered a mouse, a gerbil, a hamster, a chincilla. What do you suggest? A bunny would be so cute but too much maintenance because I know I would want it out of it's cage.

Rat! Definitely get a pair of the little buggers. Easy to take care of, and as long as you can spare a few hours each night for them (which you'll want to -- they're just so sweet and adorable) they're perfect for the type of life you seem to have right now. Tip: female rats are more playful, while males are more relaxed. Be sure to only get a pair of one gender, though. Y"don't want babies.

My friend had babies a couple months ago and wanted to give me one but my parents said no. Now that I'm living alone, maybe I'll see if she's gonna have more.

hmm, I thought about guinea pigs too. I don't want to get in over my head though because I've got a busy schedule. I would hate to get a pet and then neglect a need. I read that rats need at least an hour of play time every day outside the cage. I'm afraid my grandma (whom I'm renting her upstairs apartment from) would freak out if I had it out of its cage or that it would get lost in my stuff.

Rats are the shit. I had three big boys that lived in a ferret cage. I prefer males because they're more apt to chill on your shoulder.
