What's the best way to keep them indoors? In a tank or cage?

Also should i get fresh grass everyday for it?
>> Anonymous
>>325938

cage is better
they have respiratory problems with a tank
and hay should be available all the time

Nice usage of "your" when you clearly meant "you're". I hope YOUR parents die in a fiery car crash on YOUR wedding night. YOU'RE getting this, right?

It was a stupid guinea pig and we still hang a god damn Christmas ornament every year in its memory. If I was a weird rodent type animal that had no real personality, that's the way I'd want to go.

It may seem kind of silly, but try to get the biggest enclosure that you can get for them. For our two guinea pigs, we started out with one large plastic tub, like any of the giant Rubbermaid things that you can pick up anywhere, and then eventually this progressed to THREE, and we were able to cut them so they all fit securely together. The whole shebang must've been about ten feet long. They like to run around, so it's good for them to have a lot of space. It's also good to take them out of wherever you're keeping them to let them run around the room.

We also found that it was better to have cat litter-type bedding for them; the wood chip kind can get VERY messy and smelly if you don't constantly stay on top of it, and it runs the risk of carrying lice-type bugs.

It was a friggin' guinea pig! They don't have feelings as we know it as humans. They have base instincts such as "oh, shit, I'm hungry" and "holy crap, I need to take a shit". It didn't suffer, it didn't contemplate it's afterlife and crazy guinea pig religious beliefs. It just fucking died from not drinking water. Oh, sob, sob, sob. When is the last fucking time a guinea pig contributed something to the world? Never. They don't help anyone ever, they're a bunch of selfish asshole animals that just run around in their cages being assholes. Whatever. If it needed water so badly, it should've taken the three seconds out of its "busy schedule" and figured out how to politely ask for it.

You win. I apologize. I was out of line and I will never bring up Sunflower again. Until Christmas.

Nah it doesn't need fresh air, just as long as you dont put it in a tank.
and its cage should be at least 30x36(or some shit)

Yea, well, when I hang the ornament that's in memory of Zone, I'm going to give you an evil eye. I have theories.

Guinea pigs make great pets. Since you don't know anything the best suggestion is to go buy a book on them, or go into your local petstore and have someone explain all this to you.

Going female or male is up to you. I've always gotten females and loved them.
The bigger the better really. Guinea cages found in most petstores are the BARE MINIUM you want for your pet. Bigger really is better. Think of it this way, this will be your guinea pig's home 70% of the day. Would you want to spend 70% of your day in a tiny room? A cage with wires will work fine. They'll need fresh water, food, and fruits/veggies daily, as well as Timothy Hay.
Honestly though just go into your local Petsmart, Healthy Pet or Petco and head over to their guinea pig section. Everything you'll need will be right there. Here's a quick list for you.
1. Book on caring for Guinea Pigs
2. Cage
3. Two dishes, one each for dry and wet food
4. A water bottle
5. House (Guinea pigs like to hide and feel safe)
6. Pine shavings/Newspaper - I used a mixture
7. Food - regular pellets are good, but I'll mix in some other dried treats to give them variety.
8. Vitamin C drops - this will provide them with daily V-C if you aren't able to.

Like all pets Guinea pigs are a big responsibility. As far as pets go, they're easier to care for but they do need constant care and attention. Do your research before you actually go out and buy one. Also keep in mind all guinea pigs are shy at first and don't like being held; but depending on their personality they may come to enjoy it.

This cage is a good example of what your guinea pig cage should look like. A deep bottom so they don't spray their shaving all over the floor, while a very open space so they can get FRESH AIR.

Guinea pigs are awesome.
Give it a bath often and try to hold and hug it several times a week, preferably at least once a day. They respond whistling if they like you. Petting them while you hild them works as well.

Cut the tip of its claws every month or so, or they can get really sharp. But only the tip, like half a milimeter.

Feed it a mix of pellets and grain like sunflower, corn, etc. They love fresh greens, and mine seems to like cucumber, parsley, watermelon skin, lettuce, even celery. They eat really fast if they're hungry, and it's fun to watch the veggie disappear :3
