/an/, I want to buy a new cat. What kind of cat should I buy? I want one that's really lively and has a friendly nature. I already have one Shetland Sheepdog, and she gets along very well with any small animals. So what do you recommend?

Adopt from a shelter. Plenty of abandoned cats as it is.

This. I was going to adopt from a shelter, but I checked Craigslist and there was a kitten on there I fell in love with who was rescued from a 100 cat home that was living in an alley. So I still think I did a little bit of my part to help. Picture related, is my cat being wall-eyed

I really second Craiglist or adoption. Petco and Petsmart are more than happy to let you take out a kitten or cat and see how you like it.

They sometimes ask for an $85.00 adoption fee, but that covers neutering/Spaing, vaccines, leukemia checks. A normal vet bill for that shit can go way over $300.00

Definitely get from a shelter. Some of them have their shots, and are spayed/neutered already. They need someone.

I've been thinking about getting a cat as well, but I work like 8 hours a day, 40 hour week. I might be moving in with some friends near where I work but they have a big dog that is very energetic, so i don't know what type would be good. Gonna be a 2 bedroom apartment. Any ideas on an adult cat that would be ok be confined almost to just the bedroom?

As long as its away from the dog, an older almost geriatric-age cat. Nobody ever wants to adopt the wheezy fat old farts that end up at the shelter, but they're excellent companions for computer geeks/gamers. Old cats are laid-back and usually already fixed/declawed.

Don't buy cats from a pet store.
A kitten or an older cat of any age needs a home more than they do. They've seen too much :(
Local animal shelter/petco is your best bet.

Some cats can dominate over dogs many times their size. A friend of mine had a cat and a biggish dog. The dog was very friendly, but the cat was terribly cruel and scratched him frequently :(

The cat was eaten by a coyote pretty quickly though.

Shetland Sheepdog love.

Adopt a cat from a shelter or vet, definitely. One of my generic tabbies loved our Sheltie. Another hardly noticed the dog existed. Another liked to swipe at the dog's face every time he came in the house.
