Look,

I found this while I was sweeping out my garage yesterday. This is the biggest black widow I have ever seen. And I see them at work all the time too.

She's sexy, I say you two get it on.

i'm thinking she may have been infected by a wasp laying its eggs.
>> Anonymous
Wow, maybe it's a mom full of eggs.

Are you sure it's a black widow? The shape is right, but it's not as black as the widows I've ever seen. Is it a brown widow?

I was gonna be sarcastic and say "is that a red widow?" I mean, how do you even know it's a black widow? Is it like the rest of nature, where the males have all the beautiful colors to attract the females, and the females are usually bland?

Also, is she still alive?

this is a black widow, female.in south africa they are called button spiders because of the four indentations on their abdomen.aslo having an orange or red hourglass shape on the underside of the abdomen.their bite is toxic and can cause death.

I think you meant venomous.

Most spiders are nearly blind. Their eyes are mainly used to tell if it's day or night. Color is not going to be an important factor in most spiders' mating preferences.

sweet.... you gonna keep it? I would. Destroy its young though
>> That Gomez
none of the black widows I've ever seen have stripy legs like that. Maybe it's a regional thing?

op here,

I let it go. Yes it was a black widow for sure. It did have the red hourglass on it's stomach. It also had four egg sacks that were ready to burst. I did destroy those.

I sent a pic with a letter to namethatbug.com and asked why it was so brown instead of black, no reply yet.

Nah, that is definitely a brown widow. Found one in my house a few weeks ago and my dad(PhD in biology 30+ years experience in the field) knew we had brown widows in our house before he even saw the spider. He saw the egg sacks and identified it immediately. I'm guessing the egg sacks you found looked like this. sorry for the bad pic but you get the idea. Shit could send you to the hospital and you knowingly released it. Whhhyy?

How the hell do you walk into a place where there are poisonous creatures? Right now I have a huge spider in my garage but it doesn't bother me because we have no deadly spiders in this country. I just don't know how you can relax knowing they are there.

Op again,

Yes I let it go. I dropped it in the middle of a 4 way intersection, and wished it luck. I figure it had about a 30% chance of making it, at best.

Your right, that is exactly how the eggs looked. They had spike like features on them as compared to the smooth black widow eggs I have seen in the past.

jesus fucking christ OP, you win 1000 internets

Are you in Florida, OP? I am, and I have those things all over my house.
From what I've read they are more venomous than black widows but they don't inject as much, so I guess it's a toss-up.
