Anybody's pet have strange eating habits? When my Lab was young he would eat only half of his dog food. The strange part is that he would eat one side of the bowl leaving a perfect half on the other side. He stopped doing it when he got older for whatever reason.

Get a bigger bowl with double the food.
Let's see if he doesn't do that, again.

Well, my friend's dog ate off of the floor.
Scoop a few pieces of food out of the dish, eat them, repeat.

we had my dog maggies bowl in the kitchen and she hated being alone so she would eather only eat if we were in the kitchen, or she would get a mouth FULL of food(and i mean FULL) bring it into whatever room we were in, drop it onto the floo in front of us and then eat it slowly one kibble at a time:) she was the best dog:( i miss her

my cat does this. She also has to have her stupid hand in the water before she can drink it for some reason too. Sometimes she'll just dip it IN the water and lick it off her hand and then repeat

My moms old cat did that thing with her paws too.
But our cat now is like a dog, she just slurps her water up in the loudest way possible.
She eats that way too, we've heard her snort many, many times and she has to be escorted to her food before she eats.

Oh, and we found her licking a stick of butter once.

Sounds like OP's dog grew up with another dog and they were trained to eat from the same bowl.

It's something that comes from it's wolf ancestry. Wolves commonly take as much food as they can from its source and carry it somewhere else to eat to it make sure that another wolf will take their own food from the source and not what they're actively eating.

I'm not sure why does still do this now though. My yellow lab did his entire life. My tiny terrier doesn't do that at all. She has taken to hunting small animals and insects for her food when she's tired of dog food. We find this odd, since we live in a city, but at least we don't have squirrels or rodents anymore.
