I think it's a Brown Recluse.

I live over near Cleveland, and I get them down in my basement all the time. Things aren't too dangerous, but if they bite, it hurts like a motherfudger.

Umm I thought they were deadly?

And This thing is a lot bigger than a penny

definately a brown recluse, definately very dangerous. If the bite isnt treated relatively quickly the venom will eat away at the skin around the bite until its all black and gone. Bad news
>> Anonymous
Doesn't look like a brown recluse to me. Doesn't have the "fiddleback", for one.
>> Gehirn
Ah, everything's a brown recluse with you people.

That looks like a male wolf spider to me. It's harmless. Just shoo it into a jar, cover the top and toss it back outside.

What happens to spiders bigger than a quarter when they come near me

I suggest you do the same to yours.

I love you for doing the greater good.
What the fuck is up with /a/ threads talking about 'lol whut type of spider' or 'how would I take care of this species?' It's a fucking spider. I want to see threads titled "How can I kill this fucker in an interesting way?"

deffinently a wolf spider, i had one in my room for awile. everytime i pushed it outside it would come back in so i just left it alone... its name was George

Not a brown recluse, but a female hobo spider. Go here for more info: http://www.nps.gov/public_health/inter/info/factsheets/fs_hobo.htm
>> Swallow It
Thats a wolf spider. I am scared of spiders but these guys are ok. They hunt in your house. They r scared to death of you and you wont get attacked. Let it hunt n kill the pests in your house. That is its job. As i've said before. These have been around all your life. You just now saw one. Ignore it. Let it do its job. I feel sorry for ppl who kill them. These spiders remove things from your house that are dangerous.

ITT ignorant retards IDing a spider.
This is a brown recluse. It's body is never bigger than half an inch. The OP pic is NOT a recluse.
>> Anonymous

OP pic is a wolf spider, probably genus Rabidosa.
They're hunting spiders, they search for prey insects instead of making a web. They aren't dangerous.
>> Anonymous
Its a hobo spider!
not a wolf spider and definitely not a recluse.
>> Swallow It
a c/p from google ... the Hobo spider, occurs in the United States. It lives throughout the Pacific Northwest ... I said in a earlier post it was a wolf spider. Unless it is a small younger spider the wolf spiders abdomen is not shaped like the spider in the image. It may be a hobo. Unless its in a part of the country they are not native to.
>> Brown recluse? jmadson
I agree this is certainly a hunting spider, recluses are members of
Sicaridae and can be identified by six eyes. all are in groups of two on the medial section fo the carapace. The violen mark isn't allways a telltale way to ID recluses either, there are many different Sp. that don't have these markings but are none the less just as venomous and in the family. Some that I have kept
Loxoscelus reclusa
Loxoscelus laeta (much larger and more agressive than the recluses we have here in the states)

First, it is NOT A HOBO SPIDER OR A BROWN RECLUSE!

I repeat, it is NOT a hobo spider and it is NOT a brown recluse.

This species is a barn funnel weaver spider, also known as the domestic house spider. It's related to the hobo spider but distinguishable from the striped legs, which in this photo are clear.

It seems that most of the "I found this spider in my house" threads feature barn funnel weavers, and they repeatedly get misindentified as hobos or brown recluses by paranoid arachnophobes, and always recognizable as barn funnel weavers by the stripy legs. Do take the time to learn the difference.

Is this a brown recluse? I know the picture is kind of far away, but being afraid of spiders, it's as close as I wanted to get. Looking up on the interweb it looks like it may have been. (although I also learned the chances of being bit by a recluse are low, and the chances of the whole necroticism thing are even lower, so that made me feel better).

I killed it, picture of the corpse next to a quarter for size comparison to follow...

THIS IS A FUCKING HOBO SPIDER, T. AGRESTIS!
Notice it does not have a stripe on its cephalothorax or its ass! The spider in the OP pic has stripes on both its ass and its cephalothorax. its legs are not striped either, like the OP pic.

FUCK YOU GUYS IT'S OBVIOUSLY A GREEN LYNX.

Watch out, OP, they can spit venom at you if you bother them while they're guarding their treasure balls.

OP's looks very much like a recluse, and they are fucking dangerous. Just leave it alone and stay the fuck out of its way.

Surprisingly, this is one of the few times that "shoe on head" finds use outside of /b/ and /s/.

Squash that fucker.

Eh. Fuck it.

Looks like a wolf spider. Brown recluses have fiddles or violins or something.
