Sup /an/, someone offered me some kittens. What are the perils of owning a cat? Any tips you could give me?

BTW Anon here is a possible 1st time owner. Ive taken care of dogs before, but as for cats I have no experience.

until you can trust them you should not sleep in the same room as them

You can never really trust a cat.
One day they'll bite your neck while you sleep, just on a whim, or in revenge for being neutered.

And if you die at home, your cats will eat you.

according to the typical poster on /an/ you can't own a cat unless you are prepared for every multimillion dollar contingency possible. If you aren't rich and can't afford to pay a vet thousands in surgery bills if your cat should need it you shouldn't have one in the first place.

Cats are pretty low-maintenance. Just get some food and a litter box. And something to clean up the scent of cat pee until the cat is housebroken.

are you the same faggot troll insisting on neutering/spaying one's cat with household items?

Litterbox is good, if you get a male kitten, get him neutered asap (mine would spray his territory ..which was everything, several times a day until we were able to fix him)
pet urine deodorizers is a good clean supply to have..

buy up and get a huge litterbox, it just's... better in the end, as a form of insurance get a covered one (my edlest cat dig's far to excitedly and would knock it all out) a cheap as rug in front will keep spare litter from being tracked all over..

food and water, if you end up with a fussy cat that whines when the bowl looks empty, get an automatic feeder, my cat's don't gorge and neither are over weight so an auto-feeder works fine.
My eldest cat is picky on her water, if it's not running she's not happy, so an auto-waterer is nice also..

Carpet stain cleaner is good if you got carpet, because furballs do happen and cats puke, just like any other animal.

as far as toys go... a wadded paperball.. is an amazing toy (my youngest plays fetch with me and a paperball, and if he hears paper crumbling he comes running)

As far as maintaining a cat, keep them healthy, if they don't like wet bathing, get the powder, if you don't like the powder, but kittybooboo has a funk, they make pre-moistened washing towelettes, and they work AWESOME! (and can be warmed up in the microwave to boot)

Scratching posts? my silly cats don't like vertical ones, so test you various cheaps ones (they adore cardboard made ones over rope thousand folds, so you never know)

don't bother declawing, just start early and trip the tip of your kittens nails, the quick shrinks over years and eventually you get a pretty low cut, try not to cut the pink they'll hurt and bleed.

*thinks* food wise... up to the kitty really (my eldest can't eat certain brands she just pukes it up)

owning a cat isn't half as hard as people make it seem.. you can either end up with a completely self sustaining cat that wants nothing to do with you, or a cat that's attached to your hip and can't stand to be separated by a door from you. I have both.

Random (but if's)
If a kitty forms some sort of issue with flea collars (the old one gets these large gaping wounds from the collars) use the gel you put on their scruffs (or actually back of the heads if they lick the stuff they'll froth)

Cat treats with the hairball remedy, I find a good lil purchase, it does help in that department, and lately the catfood for indoor only cats, are really good, it cut down my cat's vomitting and trying to sneak outside for grass, but another nice treat is buy those lil pots of grow it yourself cat wheat.. they ADORE that shit.. (when you go to sleep, make sure they can't reach it.. you'll end up with a pot on the floor of dirt, and nothing more)

I think this is because anytime someone posts on here about their cat, it's a "omg kittybooboo is ill/hurt what do I do!?"

I hadn't meant to be long winded, but... I've always had cats... when volunteering I was in charge of the cat section....
My grandmother calls me over to tend to her cats, cause ...for some odd reason she won't touch them, but has them (outside only, they're waaay in the country)

aaand... bel-air..ya'll?

OP here (again), seems my sis cant take cats (lol allergies). The brief contact with the kittens had her sneezing on the way back home, and I was ultimately presented with an ultimatum "Me or the kitten?".

Anon here being the anon that he is, decided that chance to get into sis' pussy > kitten.
And that is that my fellow anonymous.
God I love my sis.

Please clarify, Anon. You aren't getting a kitten so you can fuck your sister? And she agreed to this? Get it in writing. Post the results on /b/, you will become a god.
