OH NOES bun
hay /an/

my bunny of over a year just had babies (pic related). ;.; she's a netherland dutch dwarf, and the dad is a mini rex.

unfortunately, one of them died. the other however, is kind of spazzing out every now and again (will start to kind of claw/paw at the air, then get tired and lay there)

any tips to take care of them? I guess about an hour ago they were both born.. I fail for not noticing the albino one shaking in the corner ._. however they were both in separate corners and she was being chased by her cage mate (who demanded delicious milf sex0rz) the female herself seems pretty calm other than getting excited when I do something irrelevant and then she likes to claw at the little nest I put in (which is actually a bunny bed carrier thing since I cleaned the cages earlier in the day and didnt pay attention to all the fur everywhere)

I felt her up also, and she doesn't seem to have any more babies in her. so.. whew. I dunno how I could take having another dead bunny incase I didn't notice.

the baby bunny seems to be fine. they are warm and will occasionally make little squeaky noises. :O!!

female is the tan/white. male is the dark brown.

aren't they cute? ;_; one baby was albino, second is dark like the dad.

so wait. One of the babies died?

>>and she was being chased by her cage mate
by "she" the mom?

Shouldnt they be nursing or something? Im no bun expert but isht that what happens after a little while after birth? Maybe try seperating the dad from the little one(s) and let the momma do her thing

Duh, you should have gotten your bunnies fixed first.

If your bunnies have had a decent chance to build a nest out of straw and fur and the mother is decently fed and cared for, she'll take care of the babies just fine. She'll not always sit on them, but will feed them every so often.

If they don't have a nest, you can try to build one out of whatever soft you can find, e.g. towels.

Picture related before you sit on them.

the albino one died. the black one lives. I'm kinda sad because I know they rely on heat and food to live in these trying times, but jesus, one by itself is so sad. no one for it to cuddle and kick D:

first thing I did when I noticed babies was squeal like a bitch and then I took the male out and threw him in a box. and yes, he was chasing their mother. he's been in heat for like the past day and a half and it's annoying. she doesn't want to get humped but he'll do it anyway.

>>67008
I actually want to breed them; it's why I never got the female fixed. however, I DID force them to breed a month ago so it explains why she's given birth now :/ I've had the male for about 7 months and I've been baby free til today, so yeah. I've used one of those bunny beds (I'll find a pic and post later)as a nest.. it's basically made of cotton and all this nice fuzzy warm shit to keep them warm. I also put a washcloth in there to ensure warmth and so they have something to attack o_o

You shouldn't even fucking be breeding. You don't sound like you know what the hell you are doing.

if you think I'm serious about the mishandling of my pets, then lol and get off of 4chan

Seconding 100%.

Your posts asking us what to do, the bad cage set up you have (where is the litterpan? where is the hay? top opening cages can lead to injuries and bunnies feeling like a predator is swooping down to attack), and the fact that you didn't even notice the nesting habits of your doe means that you are not prepared to be breeding. On top of that, there are way more bunnies in the world than we need already (hello, Easter), so why add to the overpopulation?

Go to your vet. Tell him what happened and ask for advice. It's possible there's something wrong with the surviving kit, but it's also possible that's normal newborn behavior.

>>67007
Kits only nurse once per day, and the mother tends to wander off and do other things the rest of the time (ex: eat and poop)

I'm not a bunny expert but it just happens to be so that I'm actually doing a breeding project with a rabbit for school and maybe I could have some useful information for you.

Never touch the nest the first day they are born only if the kit has fallen out of it, if so put it back quickly.

The second day you can check the nest, see if everything is ok with the kit.

After 14 days you have to check if the eyes of the kit are open, if not rub gently over the closed eyes with a wet finger.

After about 3 weeks the kit will leave the nest and look for the food bowl. If you also give water in a bowl to your rabbit you’ll have to watch out that the kit doesn’t drown in it.

After about eight weeks you can separate it from the mother if your not planning to keep the it. There’s a lot of discussion about when to separate the kits from the doe, but if you chose for the welfare of the rabbit I suggest you wait eight weeks, this by the way is also the good age to check the gender (It more visible at this age)

Next time you if you decide to breed your rabbits look up some more information first and think ahead about what you’re going to do with the young.

I hope this helped you a bit and good luck.

uhh, litterpan (in that pic) is out of view. they cage is not only a top-opener but also opens on the side. that pic's about 5 months old so yeah, no. there was no actual nesting habit at the photo's time. I take care of 4 rabbits at home; 2 in separate cages. the one where she gave birth in? there wasn't anywhere that could be remotely identified as a nest. fur was laying around. she sheds for that matter; I thought nothing of it, even after I looked through their litterbox before I emptied it out. so yeah, considering I clean out both cages that have fur scattered everywhere, I didn't think much of it. not to mention she's also paired with a male. I've had rabbits previously that were paired as male and female, both spayed and neutered. the female still ripped fur in fale pregnancy all the time.

unwanted birth? yeah, but it doesn't mean I can't take care of them. there's a negligence when ignoramuses say things like OMG UR OVERPOPULATING THE WORLD EVEN THOUGH IT'S A DOMESTIC ANIMAL YOU'RE CARING FOR. she had a litter of 2, not 12. there's a large fucking difference. and to top it off, one lived. ONE. excuse me by overpopulating the world with one more domesticated rabbit.

I've done all that I can by way of making a surrogate nest in the meantime. the rabbit herself doesn't seem to care or realize she gave birth (she's very energetic and ditzy, so I have the pleasure of securing the nest out of harms way sometimes)

>>67023
>>67043
you both just sound like people who don't care to help someone that wants to help out an animal. in that case, you can both simply GTFO.
>> bun
>>67049
the only thing I've done by way of disturbing the kit every now and again, is that I may gently nudge it with a drum stick because my fingers have been cold throughout the night and I don't want to scare the poor thing with my cold grannie fingers >< anyway, whenever it rolls over onto it's back and starts kicking in the air(think of a turtle on its back. :/) i gently give it a nice nudge so it'll go back to laying on it's stomach.

it seems VERY playful or atleast adventurous/active considering the fact that it can't see shit and it was born some-odd hours ago. and it squeaks. it freaking squeaks. it makes the cutest little noise when it starts to move around the nest. I want to pick it up and hold it, but I'm just SO afraid of how frail it looks ;_;

oh, and I'm poking it with a stick so I don't agitate the mother when she realizes it doesn't smell like her flesh and blood. that doesn't really matter though, considering she will lick the crap out of my hand. when i start petting her when she looks to be a little rowdy

You're totally right. I would never want an animal to be treated well. That's exactly why I told you to talk to a vet.

The reason people are jumping all over you is because you come off like a little high school girl who bred rabbits because the babies are, like, TOTALLY KEWT!!!11!ONE!!

Did you put any thought into this at all? Because now you're going to have to take at least mom and baby to the vet, which will cost a pretty penny, as well as spay and neuter the parents and baby. If you decide to breed more, which is up to you, you will have a large number of rabbits in a short amount of time. They will require quite a bit of space, not to mention separate cages for any that you don't want to breed or if they just don't get along. BTW, the cage you have pictured (I know you said it's an old pic) is rather inappropriate. Do your research next time.

Why did you breed them? Just for shits and giggles? There are plenty of homeless bunnies at shelters that already needed homes, you know.

>>67063
If you really want to help out an animal, do some research on quality care and what to do in situations like this. /an/ is great and all, but this is the kinda stuff you should have researched back when you first forced them to mate. It sounds like you've had rabbits before, and you have several now; don't you have a regular rabbit vet you can call?

Of course, you'll probably just tell me to GTFO, so have fun with your new bunny! (Roaring bunny pic added for your amusement.)

Guys, "bun" is a troll. Either that, or she's a retard. There's not much difference between the two, so I can see how it would be easy to get them confused.

my grandparents raised and bred rabbits for meat and fur. one of the things i remember most about taking care of the newborn is not to touch them for as long as you can. I picked up a rabbit that fell out of the cage while i was feeding it. After I replaced the rabbit, the mother rejected it and didn't let it feed with the rest of the litter. the next day she ate him
>> Anonymous
>>67167
has to do with scent
>> bun
>>67167
yeah, this is why I'm not touching them with my fingers. :/

>>67139
sage goes in the email field btw.

>>67138
this is the first time they've actually bred so bah. and yeah, rescued bunnies, yay and all that sort of mess. however, I do want to breed them again later on in life. so yeah, they won't be getting fixed anytime soon. (maybe within the next year or so)

won't be able to see a vet for awhile, however, I do know of someone who can give me a walk-thru consultation (I'll sit on the phone and give little tests to the little one and tell them what I see/find; they live on the other side of the country, so it's all I have because they were my rabbit's former vet, cheap and she actually liked them :T)

so, what exactly is wrong with the cage setup? in that pic, both cages are side by side with the divider up (so the rabbits dont get into other cages and start fights; thats how i get them to bond for some time before letting them get closer in an open room) litterbox is in the opposite end and so is the water bottle (it has the tendency to drip so yeah, water can easilly suck that up) so yeah... bad setup? they seem to like it much. of course, when I only had one rabbit, I use to just cover the cage floor in about 2 inches of litter. I got tired of that pretty quickly.
>> bun
aaaaand when I get the camera, I will definately take pics (which wont happen til about a week from now. so maybe I'll be lucky and they will open their eyes early. ;_;

BTW, is the only possible way to tell if she is nursing them by the size of the stomach? I don't see ribs, but if they ARE visible, does that mean she's slacking off?

I once saw a bunny at petco. It was brown, and the way it's fur was colored and patterned it looked like a deer. I went to pet it and it stood up and licked my hand. it rolled around and licked my hand and stuff, it was really cute and nice. Then i saw a big flyer that said it was sold. I cried myself to sleep that night.

>>67178

Like someone else in the thread said, you really need a cage that opens to the side/front instead of the top. It can stress rabbits out to have someone swoop in from above; it reminds them of predators. Also, I can't really tell the exact dimensions of that cage, but it looks too small, especially for two bunnies. I know you said you were trying to make some sort of nest for the baby, but if you're trying to breed them, it's a good idea to have a nest area for the mother long before she actually gives birth.

Also, just because the bunnies are rescues doesn't mean you can't get them fixed. Are we supposed to congratulate you for breeding them just because you rescued them? You were unprepared either way.
>> bun !cw7kb3KChI
Hey, look! We're multiplying! Just like our namesake!

I understand that you guys have the best interest of the rabbits at heart, and I appreciate your "advice," but I would like it if you all would just get off my back. I'm doing the best I can with these rabbits, okay? Jeez.

>>67332
it's called "can't afford to pay for a visit, and no mode of transportation". so, bah. I'm unable to have a vet physically check both mother and kit, but again, I easilly have a temporary solution to this.

>>67363
maybe I wasn't clear the first time? see in the OP pic, there's that purple thing? it's a divider. the cage opens on the top and the side. it's just there to keep the rabbits out of the other's cage. and these are both dwarf/mini breeds. they're. small. rabbits. I've seen normal breeds live in the same sized, if not even smaller cage together and it was fine (although the smell of piss was god awful after like 3-5 days)

again, I had no idea she was going to even give birth. there were hardly any signs. I know that a rabbit that's intent on making a nest will leave its fur in some uniform area along with hay, but there was none of this. so again, impossible to tell.

>>67411
>>67402
lol, trollowned.

seriously, if you're going to whine about a tripfag and all of that sort, atleast NOTICE when it's not the same person.

god, lolol.
>> Anonymous
>>67416it's called "can't afford to pay for a visit, and no mode of transportation".

I find it hard to believe this was sudden change in financial stability and mobility, which leads us back to the original question- what on earth are you doing trying to breed them in the first place?
>> Anonymous
Don't know if you know this, but the dry food in the blue bowl in the original pic is crap. Rabbit food should not have "kibble," just pellets. Look for a fiber content that is around 20% with a lower protein content around 15%. For small breeds, they only need about 1/3 cup of dry food each per day, and the rest of the diet should be greens and hay.
>> bun
>>67422

iim a fucking retard, what can i say? my budget just doesnt have room for a vet because i gorge my fat fucking ass endlessly. and im too pathetic to have a decent job or even a car. but i have rabbits, lol!

btw im a retard
>> bun
>>67422
So I can sell them and get enough money to take the two I already owned to the vet. Duh.

>>67423
Do you have any idea how much that costs? If I can't afford a vet right now, what makes you think I can pay for some high end food and hay?
>> bun
>>67423
kibble? it's actually 90% pellets, 10% mixed dry fruits. the bag itseld says 17% fiber and 15% protein, so I guess it's closer than it should be where the fiber is concerned. I feed them hay every hour or so (if they've already gone through the roller long enough anyway) and they get two servings of veggies a day.

when I had my first rabbit, I was concerned with just making sure she had hay (I thought pellets actually were bad, fat and all) but to this day and age I barely feed them any. I would feed them pellets say twice a week. why? because the minirex is younger than the other, and he's fat. as hell. jesus christ.

>>67422
I paid for a visit prior about a month and a half ago to have foxtails removed from the eyes of other pets in the household. so yeah, medication and checkups aren't cheap. and my ride has a coolant problem. so no, I'm not going to drive in hopes of blowing up my engine.
>> bun
>>67485
