bichon-poo Noes
I've had a rabbit and some fish, but that's as far as I go when it comes to pets. I want a dog, more specifically a bich-poo.
I'm currently in a commuter college with no job, so I'm not too busy for a dog. The only thing is.. I don't know what having a dog really entails. I'm going to volunteer hours for a shelter to learn a few things

But before I do that... what kind of responsibilities and hardships do you deal with while having a dog?

Pic related. It's my future bich-poo.

You should absolutely walk the dog quite frequently, no matter what kind it is. If the Dog Whisperer got anything right, it's that one. Otherwise they get restless, fat, or start having weird behaviors (pacing, running in circles, etc).

Remember that your dog needs to shit somewhere. And remember that you might be cleaning up pee mistakes and vomit from time to time.

You might wind up with a dog that likes to nip, that likes to jump on every visitor (and you), or that barks a hell of a lot. Total pain in the ass shit. Oh, and if he's outside a lot, you might be pulling ticks off of him.

I actually look forward to walking it. I walk all the time since we're 3 minutes away from a park and it'll be more fun with a dog.

I'm just kind of worried about the pooing or peeing deal. I want to try the crate training, but I don't know how long it'll last. My mom will freak if she sees it in a crate like that for longer than 10 minutes and won't let me do my training ting even though it's for training.

Oh and It'll be a housedog, I think.

Crate training is cruel. Don't do it.

Poodley-things need a lot of grooming. Go talk to a groomer.

Get a damn pound dog, it'll be less expensive and you won't be paying to kill shelter animals to get your stupid overpriced mutt. A lot are given up because of the work needed in the coats.

If you're paying for a 'bich-poo,' you are one of the dumbest people on the planet. Enjoy your overpriced mutt, shitbag!

Tell her it's like the dog's 'den'. The crate is a happy, comforting place for the dog if you do it right.

"bich-poo" mutt will need grooming every 4-6 weeks

i am a groomer and most everyone who gets one of these mutts doesnt take care of its coat like they should

mutt mutt mutt i repeat you are throwing down tons of money for a MUTT. nothing is wrong with mutts, they are the best dogs ever because they are genetically diverse. But when you pay for a purebred you are paying for years of careful breeding and a breed standard.

maltipoos cockapoos bichpoos goldendoodles labradoodles shipoos and most recently i had a cavapoo. OMG people the poodle is NOT THAT COOL

I have a bichon-poo and she is the nicest dog I know. She's 9years old already, but still acts like a puppy and everyone who doesnt know her, thinks she is a pup.
The grooming is hell tho, and if you take it to the trimmer every time its needed, it will get really expensive. So, I'd suggest learning to do the trimmming yourself. My mother does the trimming for my love, and I'd do it myself too, but I'm too scared of cutting her skin too. And at least with my experienses, these dogs dont bark alot, mine mostly cries. If the doorbell rings, she doesnt bark, she just cries.

If you have anything to ask about bichon-poos ask me, I will check this thread about once a day.

Oh, and its really stupid if you have to pay the purebred dogs price for this. Mine cost 35-50 euros. How much do these cost in the US?

At least it isn't a "biewer" (ie a terribly terribly inbred piebald yorkie)

Nothing wrong with mutts, if they havent been bred of dogs with totally different bone structure (like chihuahua x english bulldog) Usually mutts are healthier than pure breds, if they were bred from maching breeds.
And my bich-poo is one of them. Being 9 years old she has needed to see a vet only once, when she swallowed a pearl and couldnt poop because of it.

if you are getting a small puppy, it will poop and pee inside at first. That can only be avoided by buying adult dog who is already potty trained.
But if you take your dog out Always after food, playing and sleeping + when it looks like its trying to find a spot for peeing/pooping. So, it will be many, many times in a day, but as your dog grows, you dont have to take it out that often.
AND! One important thing! Do not take the dog with you for long walks before its 1 year old or so! And if you have to do that, let the dog decide the speed and if the dog seems tired, stop. Because if you make it move too much while its growing, it might do bad things to its bones. Too much exercise is bad and its bad if it doesnt get enough exercise. But you dont really need to worry whats too much and what isnt enough. Its pretty different for all doggies, and when spending time with your doggie, your learn whats the right amount for it.

And remember that if you want to feed your dog properly, its gonna cost. I'd suggest you Nutro dogfood: http://www.nutroproducts.com/index.html (btw, there are some good tips for new dog owners on that site too) and I've also heard that eukanuba foods are relly good. My brothers dog has a weak stomach, and the only dry food it can eat is Eukanuba, everything else will make it puke and it gets a diahrrea.
And ofcourse, before buying the dog, remember to buy a collar, leash, water and food bowls, toys, nails clippers, pref. something to clean its eyes with and something to help you to keep his coat in good condition. And some shampoo. At least for starters normal (human) baby shampoo is ok, as long as its tearless. And those nail clippers are really important, because if you dont cut its nails about twice a month and let it get used to clipping nails, it will be a fucking pain in the ass when the dog is adult.

Oh, and one thing I wanna ask: where are you going to buy that baby from? Because if you say "a pet store", I'm gonna regret helping you.

Yeah, and how much do dogs cost in US in general? I know they are alot cheaper than here, but how much are they actually? As I already said, my bich-poo wasnt very expensive. But my other dog, a 6 months old pug cost 1500 euros, and I'm still paying of him. And my brother bought 1-2 years old a bearded collie for about 1000 euros.
Yeah, kinda sad to pay that much for a dog, but I'm glad dogs are so expensive here, because only the people who really really want a dog usually buys them.
