It is stratified ice. What happens is a layer of ice is deposited, then on that a layer of mud is deposited (I have no idea where this mud is coming from, maybe it is penguin shit or something). Then another layer of ice and so on. This then breaks off the greater ice mass and floats away on it's side.

The different coloured ice is just ice that formed under different pressures or conditions. The whiter ice may just be compacted snow while the darker ice was made like an ice cube.

You know what, maybe a volcano deposited that dirt.
