hai /an/, I have this horrible habit of accidentally clicking here when I try to go to /b/ and for this reason you guys hold a special place in my heart. So I have a question for you guys. My cat had a really bad UTI 3 years ago, and has since been on a vet prescribed diet and he's gotten very fat and very lazy. He's not over fed, and usually he doesn't even finish recomended amount of food for his weight.Since I can't alter his diet in any way, what can I do to make him active again? He won't play with any of his old toys or new toys, he is disinterested in anything but lying on the floor belly up. He is a 5 year old neutered indoor cat btw.

tl;dr How do i make fat ass cat get of his ass and do stuff

pic related, i just took it about a minute ago

Tickle him. I'm not kidding, wiggle your fingers on his sides, and poke him and nudge him and generally be annoying. Think of things you would do as a toddler to get your mother's attention. It'll get him wanting to play (or attack), but hey, he gets exercise either way!

you have to get them out of their comfort zone. cats are sedentary because they have "been there, lol'ed that"

if they have something new, they go batshit crazy. try one of those outdoor cage things.

i do that a lot, he lies there until he gets annoyed, gets up walks away and sits back down a few feet away.

might work, though he's scared shitless of anything outside of our apartment

get him a cat wheel and force him to run in it. seriously.

pile empty boxes and paper bags in the middle of your room. rearrange them regularly. = cat amusement park.
find stuff he can hunt, like these feather thingies on a fishing rod. a laser pointer might work as well. he will try to catch them if you wiggle them long enough over its head. you can even annoy him a bit with it, that makes kitty more energetic. play with him regularly.

op pic cat doesnt look so fat. how much does he weight?

>...neutered...

Generally, neutered cats become more sedentary and therefore fat.

Unless a cat is sick/messed up, it should react to mouse looking things, so you could put your finger under the carpet and wiggle it, due to hunter's instinct he SHOULD go try to catch it. Getting the mouse with feathers on a string with a stick is a good idea. My cat goes nuts for the little furballs with feathers, but without strings. Too bad she destroys them in about 10 minutes.

see i've been doing stuff like that to him since he was a kitten, so he doesn't really care anymore

i'm wondering if getting a second cat would give him a playmate and get him excited or if i'd end up with two lazy bastards

He weighs 18 lbs. He's half maine coon so he's a large sized cat anyway, but he does have a big belly which the picture doesn't really show. When he lies on his side it sticks out a fair amount.

Go to the pet store and buy a mouse.
