So I've decided to try Culture filtration for my betta, and since you guys seem to know so much about it, I want to clarify I'm doing this right before I stick my fish in the tank. (in b4 google it, all the info I got was just people trying to sell supplies for it.)Currently my betta is in his normal 2 1/2 gallon tank. And I'm setting the culture up in another tank of the same size. I bought the two prodouct in the picture, and merely altered the foam so It'd fit in the filter I have set up already. (Its a Tetra Whipser 3i In-tank Filter)I have the new tank down stairs running with the foam and 1/2 a tsp of the stress zyme, and I put a large cup full of his current water into the mix to help it out. I'm gonna let it run for a few days so the bacteria can get started. So far am I doing this right? Will my little filter work well with this culture stuff? Got any tips so I don't fuck this up? I know /an/ has fish intelligent people out there, so internets to whoever can put in real/helpful input.
>>198025Or just let 2 filter run in betta tank, if you have space. Then when the time to change cartridge comes just remove the filter with cartridge and leave one with foam.
>>198027they're called bio-bag small, and they are activated carbon. (I bought another package of them incase the sponge and bacteria mess up my fish.)And theres really not alot of room to put in foam with the cartidge. maybe a 1/4 of an inch space between the cartidge and the front of the fliter. But since having a smaller tank apparently means the chemicals in the water aren't as stable then should I just stay with the cartridges? Which would be better you guys think?
>>198029Put 2 filter in the tank. After 2 weeks get the old one with cartridge out.Monitor ammonia - if there is any spike after that (ammonia anything higher then 1mg/l) then forget about sponge and continue using bags.btw what is your level of ammonia right now?If you dont have a testkit get one. The most important is ammonia and pH. It does not hurt to have nitrite, gH and kH as well, phosphorus and nitrate if you have plants.
>>198033Don't have a testkit probably a good Idea though. I'll pick one up tomorrow, test it. See if I can fit the other filter in, then compare. Thanks for the help guys, I really do appreciate it. Thousand internets for all of you!
it is possible to cycle a 2.5 :)I have my betta in oneput some fish food or waste in the cycling tankget a nitrate/nitrite/ammonia test kit toomight take a few weeksdo you have any bio-spira?
