Hey, /an/ - looking for some advice. I have a 25 gallon freshwater aquarium and I'd like to put some plants into it to fortify the ecosystem. I do have an under-gravel filter, though. :( I keep mainly zebra danios and red-eyed rasaboras, along with some kuhli loaches. All very common fishies, I know.

Will /an/ please reccommend some plants for me and possibly list their benefits? :D

The first thing that comes to mind, what with you mentioning an undergravel filter, would be java fern. You shouldn't bury the roots so you just rubber band them onto a rock or a decoration or whatever until they latch on. They don't need crazy light requirements and they reproduce pretty readily if I remember right. Pic related.

As for as the underground filter, you doing the right thing by keeping it in. You do need about 1.5 -2 inches of gravel on top of it. It supplies the roots with fertilizer and support, as well as like>>227796said string up Java fern or moss to the towers bringing up the bubbles once you have them covered in Java growth they'll look JAWSOME. You can go with any plant you want. some Corkscrew Val and any type of ferns and Ludwig's and wisteria some fox tails and hydra will look great but its up to you.
