Anonymous with the biting rat here. It turns out I'm allergic to the rats (thought it was my pollen allergies until the allergy meds didn't work and the pollen and mold count weren't that high). The symptoms are still bothering me despite the meds including intolerably itchy eyes, so I just can't keep them. I'm returning them to the breeder who is looking for a new home for them now. So much for having furry pets.
Hairless rats are your only option.
