I have a problem with my cat, help me /an/

what do I do to make a cat go out of hiding?

I adopted a cat yesterday and she's being inside the structure of my couch the whole day and she hasn't eaten or peed or anything and I don't want to left her in this room another night since now I see she has lots of places to hide... some even dangerous

I can't grab her since my hand wont go through the small holes inside the couch and I don't want to traumatize her by throwing water or something.

so yeah, im a little lost halp.
(pic's not my cat but similar)

tl;dr: non threatening ways to force a cat to go out of hiding

I've taken a pic to illustrate it better, sorry for the crappy quality.

as you can't see I can't reach her and I tried to put food on that bowl but to no avail, she's scared as fuck.

It'll take a little bit of time for her to adjust. You might want to start taking to covering up (stuffing towels in etc) the holes so she doesn't get hurt.

what bugs me is that she was apparently ok yesterday, at the end of the day I was petting her and she was eating from my hands but today I woke up to this scene.

I guess the night scared her?

She'll come out in time. Leave food and water out for her, and if possible, put a litter box in plain view. Make sure she's not dead or anything, of course. But for the most part, leave her be. If it will make you feel better, you can sit near the sofa and do your normal everyday things. But don't pressure her. That'll just scare her some more.

turn the couch over so that shes upside down.
then try to grab her out of there

I've done this and now she hates my guts, she even peed herself in the carrier but at least I got her, although I don't know if this was the best course of action, we'll she how she wakes up tomorrow.

thanks for the advice.

just pull her the fuck out, and put her in the bathroom with food, water, and litter. let her get adjusted to you for a few days before releasing her into the house, of course she is hiding

i think you should give the cat some time to calm down and settle in. YOU know your trying to give the cat a good life but the cats thinking "HOLY FUCK! WHERE THE FUCK AM I?! and WHO THE FUCK IS THAT GIANT MAN TRYING TO PULL ME OUT OF MY HIDING SPOT?! BITCH IS PROBABLY TRYNA EAT ME!" so just give the cat some time to figure out you mean no harm to her. just make sure theres food, water, and a litter box around so when your sleeping or out of the room she can investigate her new surroundings on her own and do what she has to do before hiding again; patience and food is key to a confused animal. when i was younger i adopted some stray cats SLOWLY! i just kept leaving food and water out and slowly they came closer and closer to me (i didnt rush them)...resulting in FREE CATS! :3

Sometimes I love you 4chan. but when you do stuff like this, I can't help but sigh inwardly. You should have let her be until she got used to the new smells and surroundings.

So, OP, did she come out or what?

GOOD THING IT WASN'T ALREADY EXPLAINED. Otherwise that post would have been completely useless and all.

Also OP: You're a moron, way to give her a further reason to grow into an angry adult who'll scratch everything and bite you since you already started scarring her psyche.

Fuck cats. The bitch will learn to chill out.

Wow, sounds like one neurotic kitty. Did you get her from the SPCA or just someone in the neighbourhood?

I've fostered a few cats now and usually just let them get used to things on their own. I let them find a balance with my other pets on their own unless there's a fight. I just try to feed them and stay out of their way at first until they're adjusted and start wandering around on their own.

Good luck with her, she sounds like she'll have a lot of quirks.

I've had a neurotic cat like that once. Like anon said, food is a sure way to calm a confused kitty. Just give her time to adjust and trust you.

Put food about a meter outside the couch's outline. It has to get hungry at some point, and eventually hunger will overcome shyness.
