Sup /a/.
So, I just dispatched a spider in a friend's apartment that looks just like this happy little fella.

Now, before I start panicking and lighting furniture on fire, are there any other spiders around north-central Illinois (Champaign in specific) that would look like this? It has the exact same back marking as brown recluses usually have.

I can't quite make out how many eyes it has, unfortunately.

Damn, I missed the 'n' in /an/.
Hands shaking too much.

that area should be relativly to cold to support brown recluses, BUT what you killed was most likely a non venemous species that was harmless such as a brown spider or a wolf spider.

if it was a recluse chill its gone now.

FAIL

Here is a map of their habitat area. Champaign is definitely included. Whatever you do, keep the corpse of the spider you just killed so you can present it to hospital staff if anyone does sustain a bite in the future. They will be able to identify it and provide more immediate care if you have it with you.

Also, be sure to *not* go to McKinley or they will probably try to cure you by letting you be bitten by more spiders. You will end up looking like this. Sweet dreams.

It might be a recluse, but the horrible stories of their bites are way overblown. Usually your immune system will handle it, and if not, getting to the doctor will do just fine.

Recently a report has gone out that 90% of medically reported recluse bites are actually an agressive antibiotic-resistant strain of a staph infection.
