A Jeweled Bug? Anonymous
My aunt from Mexico would sometimes bring me these little bug things from Mexico I think. They were about an inch long and would often have many little jewels glued onto the back along with gold chains and gold inlays. They could be "worn" just by letting the legs cling themselves to your shirt or whatever. The bug's shell itself was like a light brown if I remember right. And yes, they were alive. They could walk around, but most of their time was spent asleep. They "ate" wood.

Does anyone know/remember the name of these?

I remember those fuckers.

I think Linda Barry did a strip with Marlys about those things. Aren't they made from beetles or something?

Right, they're beetles I believe. I remember owning two, but they die really crazy fast. They have to eat this specific kind of wood that I couldn't find here in the states.

Oh god, no. It's not those. if I ever had a roach on me I'd freak. No, it definitely had a shell like a beetle, it was long and thin.

OP here.
Ok, my father just told me it was called a "Makesh". Or atleast, that's how it's pronounced. I can't google that word for the life of me. I tried:
Makesh
Macech
Macesh
Machesh
Maceshe
Makace
etc... but with no luck. Anyone know the name of these things? Or the proper spelling?

...wow. That's fucked-up. It'd be kinder just to kill them and use them dead.

it wasn't because they starved to death. the adhesives they used slowly ate through them.
