So I'm movin' to college this fall and all I'm allowed to have are fish.

What kind does /an/ recommend? Keep in mind, I don't have the most amount of money, and I like keeping things legal.

You're undoubtedly going to be moving around a lot (to and from home several times a year, as well as possibly changing dorms, you never know) so my suggestion to you is get a 2gal tank and put a beta in it. They are hardy creatures, can do crazy shit (mine did at least), and you don't have to worry about lugging about shitloads of prepared water (you can't give fish plain tap water or you'll kill them).

you never need to "lug around 'prepared' water", idiot. You need to lug around a tiny little thing of water conditioner, OH NOES.
