Alright, I hate to start one of these threads, but I am concerned for the health of my cat in case she gets bitten. I've seen a couple of these spiders around my house, and while I am sure it's not a brown recluse (Bay Area, California. They're throughout the southwestern part of the states) I am not sure that it's not poisonous. I also don't want to kill a harmless, bug eatting spider.

Anyways, here's a half-way decent picture of the spider, any help would be great.

Here's another picture that sucks slightly more than the first. If it's an immature black widow, bitch is gonna die. There's a few descriptions that young black widows are brown with a marble like color, and I've already killed one of those bitches since I moved into this place two weeks ago.

immature black widows are not "furry" like that. Their legs are also a lot less thick, and they have a very characteristic colored band around the "joints" on their legs.

Looks like a plain ol' wolf spider to me.

Call an exterminator.

Just kill it.

You're a higher order being. Act like one.

Don't worry about it; cats are fine with spiders... I live in Australia on a farm; we have three large sheds and a veritable shitload of spiders... the only thing my cats have died from is other farmers or snakes.

Nay says I ta' ye! Wolf spiders roam around, they don't build webs and hang out in them. Not quite sure what it is, but I wouldn't worry about it.
