I've recently acquired a cactus (though it was given away and i dont know what species it is or anything)

Any tips on how to keep my new cactus alive?

Congratulations, your cactus was not designed to survive anywhere past 5 months. It's probably been potbound since forever, and its roots are probably rotting.

What you have there is actually two cacti joined gother by grafting. That shit got popular in the late 80s, and it has endured the times to provide us with kitschy living matter indoors.

cacti are easy to care for. Full sun, mist it to dripping wet once every week (or whenever the soil fully dries out), and they hate wet feet so leave the water to run off.

Make sure never to water it during winter, unless you're keeping it indoors in a heated room.

Potting mix becomes water repellent after a year or so. Report with 1/2 potting mix, 1/2 sand in early summer.

I had one of those for at least 5 years or something, but we just moved, so it disappeared. It was in the bathroom, almost right next to the shower, so I never gave it any water.

I also have one of those, the top died after like 2 months though, but the rest of it is still living after about 7 years, and growing (sending out a lot of really long tendril-things). I water it a little once a month.
