Bettas with swollen stomachs.. a problem I remember seeing but I don't remember the exact treatment. Dropsy is always a possibility (if you see 'em pineconing) but there's another cause of bloat, too.. maybe a parasite? I'd recommend finding (and getting well acquainted with) the fish department of a pet store who 1) knows what they're doing and 2) cares. They're out there, I've met them (and worked for 'em).
Overfeeding is a pretty big issue with bettas, though. Unless you've got some wildly overactive one, just five or six of those little food pellets a day or even every other day is typically enough.
You could try finding a good medication but make sure you find out if it's okay to use in an unfiltered bowl or not, depending on what you keep your betta in, etc.
