I'm in ur nursing home, predicting ur death Anonymous
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Oscar the cat seems to have an uncanny knack for predicting when nursing home patients are going to die, by curling up next to them during their final hours.

His accuracy, observed in 25 cases, has led the staff to call family members once he has chosen someone. It usually means they have less than four hours to live.

“He doesn’t make too many mistakes. He seems to understand when patients are about to die,” said Dr. David Dosa in an interview. He describes the phenomenon in a poignant essay in Thursday’s issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

And said youre moving with your aunte and uncle in bel-air

I whistled for a cab and when it came near the
Licensplate said fresh and had a dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought now forget it, yo home to bel-air

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight
And I yelled to the cabby yo, home smell you later
Looked at my kingdom I was finally there
To settle my throne as the prince of bel-air

"most of the people who get a visit from the sweet-faced, gray-and-white cat are so ill they probably don’t know he’s there, so patients aren’t aware he’s a harbinger of death."

Considering that people in there are dying of alzheimer's, I'm surprised if they even know what a cat is by the time they croak...

It's a nursing home, what do you expect? Once you send someone there, it's a death sentence.

One would expect that even someone who's very very far gone with their Alzheimer's would still sense the presence of something warm and fuzzy.

Hell, when it's time for me to go I'd certainly like a cat to curl up by my side. I mean, fuck it, four hours right? I can live with spending the last four next to a purring cat. Next best thing to a Brompton's, I'd figure.

Wow, he looks determined, like he's on a mission. He also looks like he may be related to BIKECAT, which could explain some of this.

But seriously, all cats can do things like predict death and the weather, see into alternate universes, and communicate with higher beings. Only a few however choose to impart t his knowledge on inferior humans.

I spent a couple weeks at a hospice back in med school...it's a really nice place. Millions times better than nursing homes. I don't remember seeing too many cats at this hospice, but they did have a couple labradors.

I'm a secretary for hospice - we have some therapy pets and we all loved this story. I find it unlikely that patients dont know he's there... not all nursing home and rehab patients have alzheimer's, and many senses remain intact even when one goes into a coma prior to death. I've heard from our nurses that people's pets usually stay around them before they die and will freak out and go into protective mode when funeral homes come to pick up their masters' bodies
