Looking to get some hamsters, preferably a pair that can live together. I hear that Russian Dwarves (?) live with each other better than the usual breeds - Syrian etc - anyone care to give me some advice or even prices of Russian Hamsters (£)
picture obviously unrelated.
kthx.

Campbell's Russians are generally good together, as are Winter Whites (just don't mix the two).

The type of hamster that gets along almost 100% guaranteed are Roborovski hamsters. I've never seen a serious fight between Robos (though I'm sure it could happen in rare cases). As long as you give them enough room (I'd say a 15 or 20 gallon as minimum for a pair or trio) they'll be fine. They're a little skittish but they aren't biters. Very sweet, shy hamsters who love to play together and are fun to watch.

To answer your question, dwarfs aren't usually that much more than Syrians. Syrians here are about $8 and dwarfs about $12.

please dont get a hamster. hamsters will eat each other, fight, etc. they smell really bad, you have to clean their cage often. they are mostly nocturnal, not fun. GERBILS on the other hand are great pets. they really bond with you and are active and fun. they're very social and like to live in small groups of 2-3. they like to chew tubes from paper towel rolls/toilet paper rolls or boxes and are really entertaining. they're desert animals so they dont drink alot, which means they dont pee alot, which means they DONT SMELL....i clean mines cage every 2 weeks and it still barely smells. check them out...they're really really fun pets

There are a lot of hamster species that get along in captivity and don't eat each other. Gerbils are awesome but keep your anti-hamster lies out of this.

it is a FACT that ALL hamsters eat each other.
PROVED FACT.

By "a lot," do you mean a couple of dwarf species? Because you CERTAINLY cannot house syrians together, and even some dwarf species need to be kept solitary.

Clearly this is a good example of how -- wait, no, it's not a good example of anything unless you can state why it died. Did it fight with the other hamster in the box? Was it stress? Wet tail? Do you even know? Shut up. OP, if you're willing to listen to a completely vague claim like that, I suggest doing a lot more research into russian dwarves before you decide to purchase a pair.
