Hey /an/, about 3 monthes ago I found a parakeet just chilling in my bark yard wondering around, I took it inside and left the house to get it a cage and some food. Now I recently bought a giant bird cage for cheap and was wondering if I got a new parakeet and had the two of them share that cage, would they be hostile too each other? My bird has had one cage for itself for a while and I was wondering if that would make it hostile sharing a new cage.

lol

thanks for the opinions, I'll probably run to the petstore in a few days. Maybe a young one so I can try to teach it words, mine never speaks.

Parakeets aren't really talkers, but they can definitely mimic sounds they hear repeated.. phone rings, microwave beeps, etc. Just be sure that when you purchase another bird, it comes with a guarantee of some sort (some pet stores have a 14 day guarantee, for instance) so if they don't get along, you can take the new bird back and not have to worry about what to do with it.

it's not really an opinion, I've had a female parakeet for about a year now and it's the bitchiest little bird I have ever seen

i have one as well. after her friend died, i felt bad and got her a new one. she usually has a bitch fest with him twice a day while he just sits there and she flaps around the cage.

aside from that, they sing very pretty in the morning. unlike my cockatiel who barks and refuses to talk.

Had a cockatiel, the birds suck. Mine was very hostile towards everyone except my mother.

mine is ok. or used to be. now she hates me. i can't even clip her wings anymore due to her aggression.

hell since she's albino i don't even know its gender.

These kind of birds are called budgerigars.. "parakeet" is kind of a descriptive term for a whole group of parrots.

Male budgies DO learn to talk.. but only if started out at a young age.

When you get a companion, keep them in seperate cages until they get used to each other before you violate your first bird's space by shoving a stranger in there.

Also you might want to consider any possibe diseases, illnesses, or parasites the bird that you found outside might have, especially if you get another bird that is younger.
