I need help figuring something out. I go on a rat forum and I updated with pictures of my boys taking a bath. Well with the pictures I can finally ask a question that I've wonder about for a while.

In this picture is Gabriel. One of my white boys. About a few weeks ago a brown spot appeared on his nose. I thought it was dirt or poo but after washing him it didn't come off. Is he more then just a white red eyed rat? His parents are beige and black so I have no idea.

....

That's his fur colour. Some white rats (like cats, rabbits, and guinea pigs) develop it as they age. It's basically the same genetics as the himalayan or siamese pattern.

How old is he?
He's probably what's called a "himalayan". They are born white, but after a few months they get a small brown spot on their nose, and sometimes also around the base of the tail. It's a pretty unusual coloring. I suppose it can appear spontainiously, but I'm thinking that one of he's ancestors probably was himalayan too.

If a rat forum can't identify a himi or smeeze, you need a new forum. Cute baby.

Err... white rats or other animals dont just randomly develop it. It's all do to genes. Himalayan needs one albino gene so other of the parents must have had it or then it's bad siamese. Bad siamese are much more common than himalayans. And if the mother was beige it could have been siamese... it's just siamese has quite distinctive points on nose, feet and around the base of their tale but their body colour is beige. So probably it is a siamese more likely.
Siamese and himalayan also should have different eye colours. Siamese has red while himalayan has pink. You can check his eyes and see if it has blue circles around them. It should be siamese if it has them. Though always not 100% sure way to tell siamese from himalayan. :P Only 100% sure way is to breed it.
Siamaese only needs two siamaese genes.
And what comes to the points they dont always have to be brown. I breed himalayan and siamese rats in the colour blue so the points (spots on their nose and feet) are blue. ^^

Here is pic of litter with siamese and one himalayan baby.
