Was that stuck in some tidepools? lul.

no it was trapped on sand so me and my friend moved him :)

Where did you see this fish? It seems to be a cat shark, but without the location, I can only guess at any more detailed identification.

ok, heres the story:

me and my friend went for a walk, on the way out, the tide was in and really high, on the way back it had gone out, we saw the fish lying on the sand wriggling, we bailed to it, and grabbed it and then ran to a bigger puddle to let it get its breath back (LOL) then we took it to a larger pool, it just sticks its head out of the water though, anyone know why?

How can you tell a catshark and a dogfish apart?

Dog fishes exist? I thought it was just something they made up in Scooby-Doo. Holy shit.

It's a small species of shark. It's one of the few shark species that pet stores try to bill off to unsuspecting schmucks who want a pet shark.

its not a dog shark, i no that. theres some in my lake belive it or not.

It's a dogfish, not a dog shark- and i doubt they'd be living in fresh water.

OP is in an oceanic tidepool, not freshwater. Note the sea-bladders and algae covering the rocks.

If it's a small shark that doesn't look like a dog, it's a cat shark. If it's a small shark that doesn't look like a cat, it's a dogfish.
