Knee injury? HL
My 8-year old siberian husky has this appearing near the knee area. Does anyone know what it might be?

Brown Recluse
bite

humm, not recognizing by the name. is it treatable?
>> Anonymous
Yup, no doubt it's a brown recluse bite. You should take the dog to the vet ASAP before it gets too bad and will have to be amputated.

even though I've seen spiders that look alike to brown recluse, since I don't live in a area they exist (outside US), i'm hoping it might not be.
maybe bursitis or something similar, or definitively a spider bite?

"brown recluse" or "brown recluse bite" is the /an/ equivalent of any of /b/'s idiotic forced memes. It's just witless retards trying to be funny by saying the same thing over and over.

That could be any number of things including an allergic reaction to a bite, a cyst, or a tumor.
>> Anonymous
you must be new to /an/ half life
>> HL
>>322368

ok, thanks for the heads up. thought /an/ was outside the range of that kind of behaviour...

anyway, any guesses on what it might be?
i'm leaning towards a bursitis or a boil-derivative, even though a spider-bite seemed realistic...

busted... 1st time poster. is that obvious?
>> Anonymous

yes

is the object hard or squishy?
>> HL
>>322380

somewhat squishy, yep.
feels like it's ready to be drained

well there are 2 choices

Either it IS a spider bite and you should go to a vet

or it is something that can be popped ("Apply almost hot, damp compresses to the blister to try and get it to burst. Then put on the neosporen. Then cover it so your dog cant lick it off.")

either way, vet
>> HL
>>322383

i don't think it's something that can be popped or squeased, at least without an anesthetic, but the fact it seemed to grow in the last couple of days make me think otherwise.
if it was something i might do myself, i'd do it, but it might be better to go to the vet instead...

any other ideas welcomed, even though i've got the advice i was looking for (i think).

lots of thanks to 322383.

Seriously ... you never thought to take your dog to the vet to get that checked out till now? Are you that cheap, it could be cancerous. Especially if it is that big, and growing fast, that is VERY bad. and a husky ...
>> Anonymous
>>322406
prob isn't cancer, cancer isn't a bulbous sore that can be "squished"
>> Anonymous
I had a Dobermann Pinscher who had something similar in the same place. Turned out to be cancer. How long has this mass been there?
>> Anonymous
Take your dog to the fucking vet, jesus christ.

No, shut up, go. Right now.

Fucking stupid dog owners, you don't fuck around with suspicious bumps. And it's a god damn husky. I would hit you so fucking hard if you asked me what it might be, then drag your ass to your car, carry your dog into it, and break something valuable in your house every five minutes until you came back home.
>> Arutima
pop it with a needle, then press it, with your lips around it. Humm delicious pus

That's quite an unhealthy view you have there, sociopath.
>> Anonymous
It looks like an old dog wart. My dog had one growing out of the ear.

Does it tend to bleed often?
>> Anonymous
>>322439
Well if it gets the dog helped...
>> Anonymous
use a hot scapel and slice it open. thats a cist any vet will tell you that but charge you a arm and a leg to hear it i hate vets and never take my dogs to one, and if your really hassled by it you can always shoot it.

Go to the vet, now.
>> Anonymous
We demand moar pictures of dog.

I promise i won't fap to them.
Maybe.
>> HL
>>322406
no, i haven't thought of taking the dog to the vet, but i got the vet taken to see the dog. i guess that shows "how cheap" i am...

>>322418
same as above + not knowing me at all, make all the caracter assumption you want, i couldn't care less.

she's already under treatment since the vet saw her, but it hasn't disappeared, hence the quest for a 2nd opinion. thought someone with knowledge might shed a light over the subject.
being a quite active dog, it could have been something that would disappear overtime, but needed time to pass in order to check it was a blister or something muscular or even a sprained knee.
keep dissing all you want, i'm just doing what's better for the dog, and for her health...

thanks for the positive input some people gave!

Looks more like an infection to me than a leg injury from appearance and location. Still it's hard to tell from just a picture..

When did it appear and how fast did it grow?
Does the dog have trouble walking now?
Does it hurt when you bend it's leg?

When did you go see the vet?
What did the vet do except for giving 'treatment'?
Did he needle it or something?
Has it improved since then?
>> HL
>>322831

It first appeared a couple of weeks ago or so, appearing relatively fast, typical of an infection. the growth is null, except for one time it seemed to me that it had grown like 1mm overnight, but since i haven't measured it, i'm not sure it had really grown. could have been mind sugestion.
no trouble on walking, bending the knee, whatever. it's like it's not even there.
the vet saw her and first thought to be a bursitis or bursitis-derivative, of small injury with blood clot formation. no needling or draining. voltaren applied, with no visible results.

>>322841
Relatively fast, that means like 12-24 hours or something to reach full size? (disregarding the maybe 1 mm growth for now)

Anyways that kinda points away from tumor then. Could be bursitis, I would expect some pain whilst walking or after but he doesn't necessarily have to show it I guess. But even so I would expect a solely traumatic bursitis in that spot to have gone down by now (since there really isn't much pressure on that area from movement which might keep it strained).

Seems to me that it probably is infected with bacteria if it is a bursitis. I'm guessing some antibiotics would be in place.

But it still could be an insect bite as well, though a bump from that would probably have shrunk too.

OH LAWD, IS DAT SUM CANCER?
>> HL
>>322854

looking back, i guess maybe it took less than a week to get fully grown, 4 day or so. at first i thought it was a simple injury from a cut or something like that, being such a crazy dog. since she also has high pain tolerance, i don't know if she feels any pain when i touch the lump.
>> HL
well, i found a site where someone described the same exact problem on a siberian husky dog, female, same age, the same "speed" of growth. turned out to be a lipoma pronounced by a hematoma of unknown traumatic origin. biopsy was made with no abnormal findings.
that somewhat gives me a little peace of mind, but i'm sending her in for a biopsy anyway.

thanks to 322854, seriously!
>> Anonymous
>>322355

cancer. bring him to a vet
>> Anonymous
>>322879
Ok, that could be it. I was thinking a lipoma wouldn't get so reddish, but if it was preceded by some trauma I guess that makes sense. The time span fits decently too (though 4 days would be quickish (for a normal lipoma))

No problem and good luck.
