cat toys! Anonymous
Hey /an/,

I'm adopting a 9 month old cat from a friend, and since he is going from living with 4 other cats to living alone with me, I want to make sure he gets lots of play time. I've never had a cat before, just dogs and small animals.

So tell me you and your cats' favorite toys/activities!

fishing rod + button that fell off an old coat = best cat toy ever. Get some strong fishing line or replace the line with kite string, tie a bead, button, or even a catnip mouse on the end. I can sit on the couch and fish for cats. I can strap it to the beams in the ceiling and leave the "bait" dangling so the cats freak out and jump around for it.

Also boxes. You can go to a Sams club and get free boxes in varying sizes. Just dump them on the floor. You can change it up by putting balls of paper in the boxes, or catnip, or treats, or jingly balls, whatever.

For a scratching post, if you can't stand to spend 5 bucks for one, then locate some carpet remnants (Ok so I pull over and get usable stuff off the side of the road, what of it?) and nail or staple it to some plywood or a 2 by 4 or whatever.

Cats are cheap to entertain.

My cats totally love turbo scratchers. The cardboard inserts go pretty quickly though, and get expensive. But it's so fun to watch them go nuts on it.

My favourite cat game is something I call "neck go snap", and the way you play it is,

1. Grab cats' neck with both hands.

2. Break cats' neck.

FUN! Game has no end, either. More cat necks you break, more points you earn.

Don't worry, I'm sure I'll sit on it...

I'm not killing it in any way so tell me how to make keep it happy and *not* fat

My cat is in love with her paper bag. It's a larger bag that she decided was hers when I mistakingly placed on the bed one day... she'll fight it, lay in it, and loves to lay ON it when it's time for bed... also, catnip toys, feathers, and things like that are grand.

Laserpointers work for some cats and some cats are decidely 'meh' towards them. It's worth the 15$ to get one just for the ability to run your cat in circles till it pukes.

my cats luv playing 'hey lets shuv tht cat into a blender" its pretty self explanatory

If you have a fishing pole just drop a bobber on the line minus a hook and cast it around just like your fishing.

Nothing was funnier then watching a pack of kittens attack that bobber.

If you use a hook your a sadistic POS, lol

My cat's favourite toy is a long furry snake-like toy with a rattle inside. I dont know the toy-name or any brands sorry I found it in a sale bin at a toy store. She can kick chew it bend it and wrestle it. I really recommend this type of toy =) Grats on the new kitty!

I just posted this in another thread, but I have one and put them on the cats: http://www.amazon.com/Booda-Light-Chaser-Cat-Toy/dp/B00106R9QQ
I also have one cat that plays with a mouse with a sound chip inside that squeaks when she plays with it...her favorite ever:

Also, Wooly Bullys: http://furlongspetsupply.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=440
And never underestimate the power of feather mice, catnip, and tinfoil balls.

I found all these at my local PetSmart (aside from the tinfoil, haha), so you probably can too.

a straw. a fucking sonic straw is my cats favorite toy. they chew on it and throw it around all day and night. they absolutely love it. and i also got to drink a kickass rootbeer with vanilla in it. i took back the toys i bought that didnt come with rootbeer and have never been happier.
empty cases of beer are also good for them to climb on and in.

Could try a common brown snake, the now 1.5 years fuzzball on the right seems to like 'em. I swear, if my family moved to another den, there's no telling how many mummified snakes we'll find that got brought in by him only to slither off to some inaccessable place
