Sup /an/

I'm having an ant problem. I've been finding 1 or 2 flying ants inside of my house on my kitchen floor over the past week and have tried looking for where they're coming from but I can't find it.

What are common places for these to nest in? Also, what would be the best (read: cheapest) way to get rid of them?

burn something, bugs hate smoke...

no seriously, they are trying to nest in your kitchen cause there's food, look for crack in your walls or between your tiles and seal them up before they find'em and dig a nest within your walls

great, now I have to go find where they're trying to nest. Doesn't help that I have a phobia of ants, either.

lol, sorry dude, good thing they are backs, mild tempered, workers are tiny and have relatively smal and weak mandibles...

in before around backs never relax

I'm not afraid of being bitten, just of the crawling on me. It's a long story how I developed it, but it involves the woods and lots of ant hills.

Trap them in an antfarm!

oh, they wont unless you are covered in syrup, this ones avoid the crowded areas of the house once they are established, i had a colony of them in my kitchen for 12 year and the only trouble i had whit them was that if something had honey, maple syrup or jam, they would try to pry it out of the surface and get stuck, once i forgot to cap a jar of Jemima's and they made a 1/4 '' layer of workers in the surface trying to get some sweet;but i digress...

just wash your dishes and cap everything in your cupboard and they will either leave you alone or just leave altogether to better feeding grounds

seconding ant farm, enclosed there bot of you are safe and you'll be able to work on your "formicophobia" whit out actually interacting whit them, there was a tread a few days ago about ants and ant farms, try one of those cool gel ones , a traditional one needs you to feed them, gel ones are both the house and the food

Put a plate with sugar water on the floor and spy on them :/.

I've heard that if you sprinkle certain spices (I think paprika is one of them) along where they're coming in, they won't cross it.

If you control the spice
you control the ants!

Powdered sulphur. It's really cheap and ants really avoid it.

Flying ants are queens looking for a new place to start an empire.
Don't leave food around or they may choose your home.

Why? That would be a waste of good crack.

You can usually sell dime rocks to a c-head for 20-50 if he's really fiending at the time.

Could raise you enough funding to get rid of your bug problem.

Those are probably queens looking for a site to start a colony. Now would be a good time to catch one for an ant farm, as a previous poster suggested. Otherwise just clean your kitchen and don't leave dirty dishes and pizza boxes around and they'll go away. Since you're posting on 4chan, I assume you have both in your kitchen at all times.
I learned in college that 409 kills ants just as well as bug spray. I found where they were coming from and put caulk in the crack, never had ants again.

Beware! Those may be termites instead of ants. Check under your kitchen sink for leaky plumbing, soggy boards, etc. If you have a crawlspace instead of a basement, check for mud tubes leading up from the ground. Also check all around the outside of the house for mud tubes stretching up from the ground to the wood parts of the house. If you're looking for a good non-toxic way to deter most insect pests from your house, try anything that contains citrus oil, such as orange oil wood polishes, etc. If they're actually in the wood of your home, then you're going to need to call an exterminator. Termites can eat as much as a pound of wood a day.

This is a termite. The indented waist in the first picture means it's an ant.

Some ants have a part of their life cycle where they have wings. It's not necessarily a queen.

Depending upon the size of the ant, it is more then likely a drone. The drones come first during spring(they're males that have wings), then the normal female ants(the ones without wings) and the Queens will start coming out soon after that. The Queen's are quite bigger then the drones and normal ants and their wing span is much bigger(their wings are longer then the drones).
Be careful with using pesticides, because dogs/cats/animals have been known to eat sick ants and end up getting sick themselves so be cautious in what you use.
