People generally don't object to politician's faith unless they insist on inflicting said beliefs on people who don't believe. For example, if Ms Palin said, "I don't believe in abortion even in cases of incest or rape and I will pass legislation accordingly," and was then asked "Why?" the RIGHT answer would consist of some statistics, interviews with rape victims, descriptions of support systems available etc and so forth. The WRONG answer, the one she gives is, "It's against my religion."
Kevin Rudd is Anglican (if I remember correctly); nobody gives a fuck because it's a personal thing between him and his God and he keeps it accordingly. If he were to start enforcing it on others then people would give a fuck.
One of the creators of the Flying Spaghetti Monster was a Christian disgusted with his religion being used as a political action in the fight to get Creationism taught in schools. Many religifags don't get the joke. Some do, and they're pretty cool.
