Dear dinonerds on /an/
When theropods close their mouths, would the upper teeth be showing?

I care. Well not really, but I do so love to be contrary.

Sorry OP, no clue there, but I have a question of my own. Tyrannosaurs Rex: scavenger or hunter, Anon?
>> Anonymous
OP here.
Well, Tyrannosaurus rex is sometime thought as a scavenger because of its relatively slow speed (no faster than 10 mph) However, we have to put in consideration that its prey (duckbills and ceratopsians) are also not much faster. Plus, very few modern day predators are strictly scavengers or active hunters. T rex would probably actively hunt when he can, but wouldn't shun any dead meat on the ground.
Conclusion=a little bit of both

"No faster than 10 mph", WTF??
>> Anonymous
>>126834
That is correct, if T rex is to run faster than 10 mph WHILE having his legs carry that bulk of his, the leg muscle would have to exceed his bodyweight.
Face it, T rex CANNOT chase jeeps like in Jurassic Park and Dino Crisis.
On the bright side, he can catch up to you (on foot) easily :)

In jurassic park the dinosaurs who were cloned had to be like 25% frog or some shit, MAKING SUPER FROGGER T-REXES THAT COULD CHASE DOWN NIGGERS ON A STOLEN BIKE.

I refuse to believe that!

Yet Carcharodontosaurus is not even fast enough to stop Niggersaurus from stealin his dinoburgers

thats because you are ignorant

No, not exceed its bodyweight. It just would have been a very large portion of its weight, some two thirds, IIRC. And I'm also a bit sceptical of that speed limit theory as it's not completely unanimously shared among the scientists. I'd add some few miles to that top speed. Not many, but still...

One way or another, we can have the conclusion:
1. T rex is slow for modern human car standards.
2. T rex can outrun YOU.
3. T rex prey on large herbivores that are possibly slower than he is.
4. T rex is awesome.

T rex slower than a car?

Precisely, good sire
>> Anonymous

If it's not at a high speed, I suppose he can just use his head, just like how two legged wingless birds gets up.
Unless, that is, that he was running at a high speed and has broken a leg while running, then o man he's so skrewed

Whatever happened to Specworld? Last I checked they were migrating sites or something and a lot of stuff wasn't posted from the old site. In any case it looked like they hadn't updated in ages.

It disturbs me how quickly you posted that picture. It also disturbs me that, upon viewing it, my thoughts went like this: "That dino is going to have some serious problems with the sno-oh good it has fur. Wait what?"

Maybe if you're walking, but I would probably run if a T-Rex was chasing me. I dunno about you, but most humans are capable of running at least 15 mph. 10 mph is pretty much a jogging pace.
>> Anonymous
Perhaps the T-Rex was a successful hunter until it grew to the enourmous size it was, and then it reached a point where it could simply use its size to intimidate other creatures away from dead prey and live off that.

To address the question in the OP, yes, the upper teeth would definitely be showing. Especially if dinosaurs didn't have lips, which is very likely.

As for a fullgrown T. rex running speed, 20 mph is a realistic estimate. You have to mind, though, that most of their lives Tyrannosaurs were considerably smaller than full-grown, and would have been able to run faster. Anyways, faster than a human. You'd be able to shake an adult T.rex by swerving a lot though, because the long tail and heavy head made it slow at turning. Unless of course they were social...

Then you're really, really screwed when it enters a pack of fast, agile subadult T rex.

Funny, I was just browsing the spec pages myself today... AFAIK the original creators are currently busy with studies and/or doing real science so the pages haven't been updated since last year.

Both, like pretty much all carnivores. What's the saying: "Carnivores scavenge when they can and hunt when they must"?
