Hey /an/, I'm going to be moving out on my own soon, my job requires that I move across the country, and since I won't have human company, and I'll be very very far from anyone I've ever known, I'm going to get a pet.

I've always like birds, but the only thing I've ever owned was a budgie. I'd like to get a macaw... but they're very high maintenance...

Soooo... what bird would be a good choice for someone who's on their own and has never had any big birds before?

Cockatiel

nothing.

Your first solo pet shouldn't be one that requires all the attention, interraction, and committment that a big bird needs. Also, are you really ready to get an animal that stands a good chance of outliving you?

seconding
Cockatiels aren't very big but they're social parrots
just be SURE you got one that was socialized. Otherwise, they will always avoid you. Don't buy from a pet store or some shit.
Also, birds of any sort are loud, annoying, and messy. I hope you're not in an apartment.
