Okay /an/ I was given this male Green Anole like 2 months ago, and he's got one of those tiny plastic terrariums or whatever they're technically called. Which works good enough as he's small and there's only 1.

But I want to put him in a larger tank, and possibly with some friends. So what I’m asking is it a bad idea to do this? and if not, should I just stick with a few more Anoles, or are there other lizards or what have you that he can co-exist with, without getting eaten?

I had a pair of anoles for several years. they even produced offspring. anoles can be put with geckos or more anoles. not sure other then that, you;d have to ask you local pet store.

Failure.

Green anoles are highly active, highly territorial aboreal lizards. Diurnal, they require UVA/UVB lighting, along with suitable basking temps, in order to be housed PROPERLY.

Unless they have a lot of room in their enclosure, housing more than one per tank can be dangerous, because there's always going to be a dominant animal [especially if it's a male], and one unlucky submissive animal who ends up bullied and eventually dies from the stress.

On the subject of stress--Their enclosure needs to be loaded with greenery for them to hide in.

Your best bet would be to go get a 20-gallon tall or extra tall fish tank, screen top, proper lights, etc. Set the tank up with cyprus mulch as a substrate, and get a bunch of fake vines and plants and stuff for the anole to hide in.

Make sure you're feeding him properly--Anoles need pinhead crickets, not the 3/4 inch adults most shops will sell you for them. Dust the crickets with a vitamin supplement a couple times a week.

Oh. And if you do decide to get him a cagemate--Don't mix species.

This happened with my anoles, I had six of them. There was an alpha male, called "Matey Boy", the beta male if there is such a thing, called "Strongbow", and the rest to whom we just assigned numbers.

His reign of terror, in which he did nothing but chase all the other anoles around and beat them up, lasted about two years. During that time, two of our anoles had a baby, which is fairly rare for anoles not in their natural habitat (according to our local pet shop geezer). We kept it in its own enclosure, but my moronic brother put the baby back in the main tank, and Matey Boy bit the poor thing's head off.

Matey Boy was the last to die... we couldn't tell that he was dead at first, because he didn't really move around that much anyway, but now he was completely still. But he just sat there in this intimidating, almost defiant pose, right in the centre of the tank, right in the centre of central twig. He slowly turned from green to brown and finally black, which is probably the colour at which Green Anoles crimp their soul out.

I'm pretty sure he was sent here from hell.

my anole went anorexic.
it's kinda sad.
he'll eat sometimes, but for long periods of time he'll just starve himself.
i think he's gone insane.
but that's to be expected when you live in a plastic box.
