Fish noob here, hoping to seek some helpful advice from /an/ons...

I've kept a fantail goldfish for a month, and everything seemed fine...until this evening. I finished studying and went to plop down in front of the aquarium to watch him blub about. Expect there was something funking going on with his caudal fin. On the left side, there's a split... it's low but it's almost halfway to the root. I also noticed on the right side it was starting to fray just slightly too.

I didn't notice any changes in behavior of the fish, and it doesn't seem red or have any inflammation, so I couldn't tell if it was an infection or he tore it on something. I did have have some rock decorations and I removed them.

Suggestions/Advice?

Pic related, shitty non-artist's rendtion of where the fraying is.

Go pick-up some aquarium salt, add required amount and raise the temprature in your aquarium.

I'd say he's probably getting raped by other fish, my standard goldfish bite the shit out of my fantail, and your other fish prolly find yours equally delicious.
