How do you /an/imals deal with pet death? We had my other dog put down today because of imminent heart failure (her sister died about 6 months ago).

Picture breed related.

Likewise. I've dealt with two pet deaths, one was a lot more difficult than the other and it really affected me.

My family has three dogs right now and they're all around the age of nine. We've had them all since they were puppies and I can't even imagine what it's going to be like when they start dying.

The power company shut off my electricity on accident and it was 118 degrees here. My girlfriend's and my pet rats died of overheating while we tried to move them to another house. The next day, her dog she'd had for six years accidentally choked himself to death on his dog run.

I had a 4 year old cat die a year ago. Admittedly, Seeing her in pain before death hurt me more than when she actually died at the time. Miss her a lot these days. :<

I have owned a ton of pets. I've noticed that hamsters and fish had less of a reaction from me than the larger, cuddlier animals.

My rabbit just passed recently, and I practically lost it.
When my parents put down a cat I grew up with without telling me? Another got hit by a car. My dog was stolen. My bird was let out by my brother.

:'( Bad bad memories.

Sighthounds are the best. I need one that gets along with bunnies, though. I saw a pic of a bunny and a whippet sleeping together, but I am not risking it.

Recently we put down the family dog, a 17 year old golden retriever. I was sad but barely cried because I had prepared myself for it.
When my rat died I cried for days. He was 4 so he was getting pretty old too, but man, I didn't cry that much when my great grandma died.

Just try to find comfort in knowing you gave them a good life in their short time here.

I get depressed like I've lost a loved one. Even when it's just a hamster. Fish, not so much.

Man i know how you feel with that. My hamster recently died and I've been a wreck about it for days. Only in the last day or two have I been able to cope with it better.

I've never really had a pet die, but at the moment, I've got four that I care about. One of my dogs is about nine, and I've had him for seven years. I seriously think I may die when he does. Then I've got my horse, I've had her for two years, and same thing, if i have to sell her or if she dies, I'm going to bawl for a week. My rabbit, I just love her and she's cute. And my other dog is eleven, we've had him for a year, but he's one of the best dogs I know, and still acts like he's three. But recently he's been pissing and shitting in the house :(
