Hey /an/
Me and my girlfriend were looking into getting some small animal, I want a ferret again, use to have one long time ago, and she wants chinchillas. So, anyone have any experience with either? Its been so long since I last had a ferret, and I was much younger, so I don't remember a whole lot, and would take any information/suggestions.

Thanks, pic related, its a ferret and I want it.

You should at least get two ferrets else the one you´ve got will get lonely.

Get a flying squirrel! Doesn't smell, bonds to owners quickly, an absolute darling that doesnt easily get scared or freak out and go on a chewing rage.

Ferrets and chinchillas are both high-maintenance and don't really do much cuddling and bonding.

Having a ferret is like having a kitten, for 6-8 years.

a chinchilla will always be deathly terrified of you.

i have 3 ferrets and 2 of the three are really cuddly!!!!!!!!! my boy follows me around the house and if i stop walking he stands up w/ his front feet on my legs to be picked up and snuggled! my female is a wickid kisser! shed kiss my to death if she could!

but on that op, ferrets are extreamly high maintenance and are a lot of money not just to start w/, but to maintain, they need yearly shots like a dog, and there house needs constant cleaning so YOUR house dosnt reek like shit! best pet ive owned short from a dog, but you need to be prepared for a lot, like diseases (adrenal, lymphoma, insulinoma just to name a few) they can also get colds and the flu from you! they need a lot and if u dont have the time or money for them i suggest getting something that requires a little less

pic is my 2 snuggly babys! when they were babys! (5 months old)

Check out http://www.chins-n-quills.com/forums/index.php for basic chin questions. I know they aren't as free spirited as ferrets, but they are fun in their own way. They will never be lap animals as some ferrets can be. They CAN also live into their 20s(if taken care of properly), while ferrets live to be about 8 years old. But with all the illnesses they are prone to it tends to be around 5ish.

Chins will chew everything. Both will get into everything unless it is chin/ferret proofed. I'm pretty sure with enough time you can litter train both.

So it comes down to this. They will both cost about the same since they have the just as much health issues as each other, ferrets maybe slighty more. Ferrets live less, chins live a long ass time. But of course do your research outside of 4chan when picking a pet also!

OP here,

Yeah, I've been doing research outside too I was just curious as to what others thought of them as pets. We're probably gonna get a chinchilla first, and later depending on how the chin goes, we may or may not get ferrets.

I've never had a ferret, but I work with chinchillas at work and they are very, very good natured. They are very ceceptable to diseases like ringworm, though, and so you'll have to keep a close eye on it if you get one. And as long as you have things in their habitat for them to chew (they sell whole house structures for chins that are completely edible, should your chin choose), they'll be content.

Also, wtf at the idea that flying squirrels don't smell. They smell AWFUL.

Just buy one of each. Have them fight to the death. The winner gets to be the pet.

hmm... considering ferrets are hunters and carnivores and Chinchillas are "pray type" animals i dont suggest that EVER be tried... no trolling!

Yeah, either ferrets or chinchillas. The ferrets will eat the chins.
