Any Sugar Glider owners here?

I know somebody who breeds them, so I get to play with them occasionally. She has brought several over to a friend's house. One of them just hid in her shirt, and would come out every now and then, and I would pet it. The other one was super active and would jump from person to person. It even jumped on somebody's face like an alien. They were very fuzzy and fun to play with, but I wouldn't want to maintain one, she said you have to keep meal worms in the fridge.

I raise two. Very high maintenance, but once they bond with you (like imprinting) they have loyalty that would kick any dog in the face.

You don't need to feed them bugs. Their diet is the only hard part about keeping them, as it is a complicated diet. In a day I feed mine their staple food, peas, fresh pieces of apple or kiwi, water, some celery, their vitamins and low fat yogurt (as opposed to worms)

They are the single greatest pet you could ever have, if you're nocturnal and up for the first couple months prior to when they bond, where they HATE YOU AND WANT YOU TO DIE IN A FIRE.

Are those really the noises these things make? Good lord!

That's called 'crabbing'. They only make that noise when they are incredibly stressed or scared. Either when they first come home, or if they are being mistreated.

it looks like a fucking pokemon

So they eat fruits, live bugs and live lizards? Seems like a bit of a hassle.

Even though they sound complicated, I really want one<3

They are also incontinent. AKA they shit all over the place.

They don't need bugs or lizards. You can replace those with yogurts. Yes they shit, but it's just hamster style shit, and they do it the moment they wake up so just let them do it in their cages.

They are incredibly loyal, curious, more playful than a cat, and can glide 140 feet. They are high maintenance in terms of diet, and the first couple months it takes a lot of work to get them to bond, but once you do you have the greatest pet for life.

After reading this thread, I want to get one.

They are the best pets, but remember a few facts.

Firstly, they are high maintenance and they require a BIGASS cage. Their diet is complicated. Hamster balls and toys could kill them. You need to buy Sugar Glider equipment. The bonding process can take up to three months and they live 10 - 15 years. Oh, and they are nocturnal.

If you want one http://www.sugar-gliders.com/ is the only place to go! Incredible reputable. They are amazing. They are the cheapest around and ensure both quality and care.

You -HAVE- to purchase Sugar Gliders in pairs. Preferably a neutered male and a female. You cannot just get one. They are colony animals and become psychologically damaged if you just get one. It's bad, I've seen it happen.

http://www.sugar-gliders.com/sturdy-cage-kit.htm This, plus a neutered male and a female will bring you up about $900 dollars.

The $244.93 is worth it, as you get the essential wheel, proper sized feeding trays and some fantastic toys to play with them.

This is how I roll.

I'm not sure why, but the idea of sugar gliders as pets kind of distresses me. Probably because as an Australian kid I had all that OMG NATIVE WILDLIFE IS SO FRAGILE stuff drummed into me.

The primary reason they are illegal as pets in Australia is because if they were not, people would just go out and snatch them from the wild.
