>>215773 Weird. . .I have a book on La Brea that says the lake has SHRUNK by close to %65 or so since the Ice Age. Since the lake is still huge, just THINK of how gigantic it may have been. Anyway, I have a videotaped of "Nature's Death Traps" fron DSC about eight years ago. There's one segment on La Brea, and a shot of a fumarole or something bubbling away NEXT TO A HIGHWAY, OUTSIDE THE PARK BOUNDARIES!! So does that mean the fault system or whatever caused the lake to form is moving?? Gnarly!
(BTW I never saw the movie "Volcano," nor will I ever. I heard it sucked, and besides, La Brea was not formed by volcanism. It was created by a petroleum deposit breaking to the surface and oozing out under pressure. The lower pressure and temperature; and higher humidity at the surface caused the petroleum to congeal into asphalt).
