African soft furred rats?
I found a breeder in my state and I'm interested in them. I'm looking up as much information but I'm getting a lot of mixed signals from some forums. Anyone have experience with them?

Very very limited.

Just be aware that "rat" is a very general term. Even though natal rats are in the Murinae family, they're not like brown/black rats - they're more shy (or aggressive depending on the individual) and aren't really big into cuddling. Good luck.

So, they are either shy or pissy. That probably helps OP a lot.

Thanks. I'm aware, which is why I didn't mention that I have five brown rats before.
The more I look into them, the more complicated these little guys seem to be, but I'm still willing to find out more information. I'd ask a forum I found thats about them but they seem to be more interested in breeding them for snake food than temperament.

They're captive-raised wild animals, so they're much harder to tame and are much less likly to remain tame if you skimp on handling them - even for a few days. Does the breeder allow visits? You should ask about meeting the breeder's stock to see how friendly they are.

Not sure. I emailed him(or her) with some questions, still waiting on a reply. He had some pictures of him holding some in his hands but that doesn't really show much.. My OP pic is related. One of his rats.
