Prepare to be bit a lot, actually, when I owned one, it never really bit me, just my brother. Little fuckers though, their instinct is to keep latched on until it stops moving.

The first week with it is going to suck, it will just ball up and make puffing noises everytime you try to pick it up, just don't rush the process by excessive handling.

Get a the biggest, most conventional habitat you can. It loves to run around at night and smaller enclosures can cause various physical and mental problems for the little critter.

If you let him roam around, watch what he gets in his mouth. the one I had loved to go up to the walls and lick the paint and do this thing called "self-anointing", where basically it makes a bunch of spit in its mouth and then rubs it all over its spines.

Other than that, pretty basic stuff, feed it meal worms as treats, we fed ours cat food and it loved it, so just don't kill it and enjoy!

Ever have a hamster? Hedgehogs are essentially big, spiky hamsters. They're bitey and nocturnal, have marginally non-existant personalities, and amuse themselves with scampering and exercise wheels. They're pretty easy to care for, just get an extra large guinea pig cage, wheels, tunnels, etc. They poop in big fat turds which are easy to clean up, though a bit gross.

People always reccomend going to a private breeder over a petshop. This is especially important with hedgies since they'll quickly become little assholes without propper socialization, which most stores fail to provide.
