I lost my dog today, /an/.

Lola was a shelter dog, a Siberian Husky / Welsh Corgi cross. She was so mild-mannered and quiet; you'd really have to rile her up to hear her bark. She'd just silently follow my mother around the house, curling up in whatever room she was in, hoping for a little attention.

She loved chewing on her stuffed burger, and my mom would make constant "I can haz cheezeburgr?" jokes to her. Lola would growl if you went to take it away, but in the end she'd give it up without a fight. She never once bit a person in anger.

This morning she went into the hospital to have a growth removed from her eyelid. It was supposed to be a simple procedure, but she had a bad reaction to the anesthetic, and her heart failed. So this afternoon, we had to bury her.
>> The loss of your dog. Gabe
I am very sorry for the loss of your beloved Lola.
I am a dog lover myself and have gone through this before. Remember the good times and the great quality of life you gave her.

Sorry to hear that. She sounds like she was a sweet dog.

I feel your pain, Anon. We lost our dog (also from a shelter) over the summer. He was always very quiet and loved to curl up right next to you, although he was a bit of a bed-hog. He liked being scratched at the base of his tail.

A month before he died we noticed he was having difficulty breathing, so we took him to the vet. Within a month he was gone. He had some sort of genetic anemia that I forgot the long-ass name of.

Shit sucks, but we have a Dachshund puppy now and God damn is he a handful.

OP, My condolences. Reminds me of my big, dumb St. Bernard, named Abdul. He was a pain in the ass, ate EVERYTHING, and hated all the neighbors, but I was a little kid when he passed. I still have his favorite chewie, in my gingerbread house of precious things.

sounds like a great dog. My sister has the worst dog ever - a polar opposite. It's small, loud, whiney, pisses shits and throws up everywhere, stinks, has serious attitude problems, is the antichrist (name is damien), pisses off my cats to no end, eats all the cat food, goes batshit crazy on strangers, bites, etc.
I wish it could have been him instead

Probably the best dog ever.

Yes, this. I'm curious about the dog's body proportions. It sounds like such an odd mixture. Oddly awesome, that is.

Man, I feel for ya. I lost my Schnauzer last tuesday after 15 great years. He came home in the palm of my hand when I found him wandering lost, cold and still with his ear crop bandages on, and last Tuesday night he died in my arms when I was given the privilidge of administering the shot to him. We had taken him in because after Hurricane Ike, he was very lethargic and stressed looking. He was breathing a little labored for a while and he had really bad congestion. After two days of tests the vets found out that he was suffering from renal failure (kidney issue) and his pancreas was failing. Later in the day they had confirmed that he had several cancers in his body and that there was really nothing they could do. I fought with the vet for over 10 minutes face to face telling him that I didn't want a complete stranger to be the one to do it, and even my mother and father had to leave the room. The vet was a great guy who saved him two years ago when he had a stroke, but I think he understood what I meant and he allowed me to administer it. I held him in the crook of my left arm, whispered in his ears for the last time thanking him for being my best friend for 15 wonderful years, and buried my face in his neck when he took his last breath.

Rather than burying mine, I opted to have him cremated because I felt that if I buried Oscar, it would be like I was trying to forget him and his existence in my life so I retrieved his little urn two days later and placed it in our mirrored cabinet surrounded by his picture and a few small schnauzer sculptures we had collected over the years. My folks walk by him every day and even talk to him. I think it helps them cope.

Pic related. My little buddy. I took this pic about a week before he went in for the last time.

Hopefully she'll get as much love from the angels as she did from you

and

hopefully, when you feel up to it, you'll show another dog as much love and kindness as you gave to her

Sorry about your dog, anon. I lost my cat the same way, they were removing an ear polyp and he just died. They didn't explain why or how it happened, just that he didn't survive the procedure.

THIS is the very reason i never come to /an/

i feel like the majority of this board understands that pets aren't just pets, they're members of our family.
and it fuckin hurts to lose a family member.

i tore the medial meniscus in my left knee this time last year and as soon as that happened one of my dogs started limping on her left leg. i felt like we were in double dragon or something.. and i just can't stand thinking about her being in pain.

pic related: it's part of my pack

I know how it is anon. My condolences. A couple of months ago, I took my car in to get checked out. It was looking a little bit odd, not acting usual. A little bit skinnier than I've seen it, but wasn't too alarmed. Turned out she had feline leukemia, and a lot of fluid build up around her heart and lungs. I had to put her down. Talk about weeping like a little kid, I hadn't cried in a long time..

You are, quite seriously, the most annoying person on 4chan. Quite seriously, you should fuck the hell off.
Where's the proof that OP lives in a country that went to war with Iraq? None. So your statement isn't just insensitive and fucking PATHETIC, it's IRRELEVANT.
God, I hate you. And it's so easy to tell if it's you posting on this board, there's always something in the post that screams 'HEY LOOK AT ME GUYZ IM A FUCKING SANDNIGGER GIVE ME SOME FUCKING ATTENTION'.
Well you know what? Here's your fucking attention. I hope its the fucking kind you wanted.

I shed a tear for you. I know what it's like to lose someone that close.

Sucks I know how you feel, I've lost a 9 year-old Golden Retreiver to bone cancer, a 15 year-old cat to "old age", another cat got hit by a car, another cat(My personal cat, others were "family" cats) ran away, and I just found out my other dog has nasal cancer, in the last two years.
>> Crazy Cat Lady
>>318525
w/out trying to sound rude..... WTF? nasal cancer? how does that occur?
>> Anonymous
>>318543
What are you, stupid?
>> VetassistantAnon!
>>318543
Yeah nasal cavities, happen the same way as a normal cancer does except it happens in the face. You know cancer where the cells keep multiplying. Causing an expansive tumor thus ultimately causing death. Ive seen a couple of cats with it so far in the last year. Scary stuff.
