ITT Falcons and falconers. Anybody have any experience or have stories about falcons they have had? Eventually, I would like to get one, but have no idea how much work it will take. Any information would be nice. ^_^

Theyr'e expansive to feed. I talked to a falconer at a falcon rescue center, and he said for good nutrion, they feed them chicks. They will take lots of work. To get proper exercise, imagine how much a dog needs, but there is no dog-walking service. You would need a few hours each day to feed and exercise it. They can be awful if they get bored and have pent up energy

It takes a whole fuck ton of work to get a falcon...you have to train under a falconer for like a year, pass a test, you then get your choice of an american kestrel (which I love), or a red tailed hawk, or some owl breed I forget. Then after you've proven that you're worthy you can move on up to other birds

OR............................................................................................

Get online and buy a hawk/falcon/owl that is native to some other country from some breeder in another country, go through the comparativly minor hassle of getting it imported...and then enjoy your falcon/hawk/eagle/owl etc...

If it's native to the US you have to go through all that falconer bullshit, if its not native then its basically treated the same way as a fucking parakeet lulz.

That said they make shitty pets and you probably would need the tutoring to be able to train the bird to not fly away/claw your eyes out.

You have to buy a digital scale, and manipulate their weight to
A) keep them healthy
B) make them feel like hunting food for you

Also they will never ever show any concern for you at all...you know how lots of /an/ heros hate cats cuase they could fucking care less if you live or die? Multiply that by 100. You get to look at it, carry it, fly it, watch it come back, feed it..that is the extent your relationship/bonding.

Yeah. They aren't 'pets'. Just used for hunting. I'm not the kind of person who is against owning wild animals or whatever, but I do think birds of prey belong in the wild.

When I was in highschool some people came by with red tailed hawks, some falcons and a horned howl. They didn't let them fly around though because we had guinea hens around the school and they were all itching to go after them.
Shortly after we got to go to some native american place and they put a show on for us with the hawk flying around. It wouldn't come back for like 10 minutes and just chilled in a tree.

Just what kind of falcon is in the OP's pic?
And for that matter, I thought hawks and falcons were the same...I don't know much.
