Hey /an/. My cat just got back from the vet and he's looking pretty miserable. He had an absess removed from the side of his belly and on top of that he was neutered in the same day.

So anyway, he has to wear one of those cones, and he's having some trouble coping with it. Do you guys have any tips on making him comfortable and/or happy?

Pic related cuz its him.

I love this cat, and he looks so pathetic...

Buy him some special treats (my cats loved the moist kibble Pounce treats) and give him some extra love. He'll still be miserable for the time being, but it will help him cope. Don't worry, he'll be back to his old self as soon as he heals up and gets that e-collar off.

yeah i already gave him some of his favorite food, but looks so damn uncomfortable wearing the collar. He keeps running into shit.

I think it's sweet how close you seem to him. I wish I could meet a guy who loved his cat like I love mine.

Just give him extra TLC. They also sell those.. cat.. uh, pheremone sprays or whatever that can help calm cats when they're stressed out. Check your local pet stores.

Will pheromones actually work on him?

He just got his balls snipped.

Yes. Pheromones aren't just for sexual arousal. Since animals communicate somewhat by use of scents, there are pheromones that convey all sorts of different "emotions."

Well thank you, I'll try that.

I think his olfactory senses will still work. Try catnip and the like, too. You never know until you try.

I don't know why, but our cats never had a collar put on, and they never pulled the stitches out. Make sure you keep a close eye on him - he must be able to drink! Food is not so important for the first day. He'll feel pretty lousy for a couple of days but should then bounce back. You could try getting powder milk from the vet or cat milk from the supermarket and putting it into a clean syringe. Let him lick from it - maybe he'll like it and he could certainly do with the fluids.
