Is it normal for young cats to bite you? Mines bites, then licks my arm. The biting is sort of annoying.

I don't have a picture of my cat, so ya'll have to settle for this unrelated picture.

yes. sternly/loudly tell it NO! when it does it and then ignore it and push it away when it tries to bite you arm. possibly spray it with some water when it does it.

My cat likes to bite me and then lick my arm too, but I know he does it when he's really happy - he only does it to me whenever I'm petting him and he's been really relaxed for a while, never out of anger or 'just because'.

If you don't teach them otherwise, then yes, it is normal for cats to do the bite-lick playing thing. It is generally not agression or hunger, as>>242287said, it is usually a playful affection. Similar to poking someone sitting next to you while watching tv or stealing food off a friend's plate.

quite often they pick up the habit from owners playing roughly with them, and promoting this behavior. just a thought.
