Hi /an/
Later in my life, I want a Sun Conure. I've met them, but only with alot of them at a time, and I want to know just how noisy one is. I've researched the crap out of them, but still unsure on noise.
I don't mind noise in the mornings and evenings, but if tis constant, thats another thing.

thanks.

They are very loud when they want attention, which is pretty much all the time. I have 2 suns and they are total sweethearts if they like you--otherwise prepare to get the shit bit out of you. I love birds but generally I would not recommend them as pets, especially conures if you want something quiet. Maybe a maroon-belly or green-cheek conure would be better for you if you have your heart set on a conure; they're smaller and are definitely not as loud as a sun. But birds all have their own little personalities.

tl;dr: Sun conures are awesome but loud as hell all the time, stay away unless you're prepared to deal with it.

Your pic is a jenday conure, by the way.

one of the more recent issues of "parrots" magazine has a feature on sun conures.

I used to have a Senegal which i think is the same family of parrot and he was a talkative/opinionated little shit. Funny as hell too. They'll pick up noises fairly easily and mimic them to no end. Mine did everything from the house alarm to the laugh tracks on sitcoms. Even better was he knew just when to "laugh".

Every morning would be the same chattery routine from low muttering to himself to shrill descending shrieks. They aren't like larger birds though where it becomes unbearable. If you want the bird to shut up, throw a blanket of the cage.

They also bond with one person and will prefer that person over everyone else. Took me 4 years just to get him to tolerate my girlfriend. He drew blood on more than one occasion....

pic related. it was Jester.

Iv had birds for the last... 14 years now. ranging from budgies to my current Macaw. conures are the clowns of bird world and they can have amazing personalities. but yes, they are LOUD. i currently work in the bird department of a pet store and the conures can have a worse shriek then the larger birds. but some birds are worse then others and each has their own personality. if you want a quite smaller sized parrot the Senegal is your best bet. they are quite and generally have good temperaments, Meyers are also good birds. all i can say is really do your research. talk to breeders and keep your options open. each breed of bird has a different personality and you wana get one that will match you. they live a LONG time, you got to be committed

also, you're much better off paying the extra cash for a handfed baby. Your bird will be much more adjusted to humans and easier to train. Pet store birds have been interacting with their cage mates and the employees that clean their cages, and feed them.

My cousin had a sun conure that he would throw down the hall like a football. The bird wouldn't open his wings until he was about to hit the wall, and would come back and make him throw him again. Over and over the bird would do this. I guess he was too lazy to fly or something.
