Okay so I got a 150 gal tank but its still cycling for what I'm going to put in it and until then I have a smaller, slightly over 10 gal tank (methinks).

I got a Pacu today which is about 5" and I was thinking of putting a silver Arowana in with it.

Anyone know if they'd get together or not, or will it be a horrible mistake.

Also, the Arowana I'm going to purchase is about 6".

Your tank is too small for fish that size.

Pacu and Arowana can live together though.

the tank is too small for those fish... it's not about the gallonage as much as it is the width of the tank (how much room the fish has to turn around). but yes they'll get along

Are you guys talking about the 150 gal thats too small? I heard the max its needs is 300 or more but he's still small so I should have time. If it comes to it and he outgrows even the 150, I'll get a 300+ tank or if I cant manage it I'll sell it to this store I always go to.

Anyway, thanks for the advice.

You heard wrong.
Arowana should be kept in a tank 5 m wide.
No suprise if you consider they are 1 m long themselves. 5 times your body length for movement is not that much really.

5 meters wide?? I don't fucking live in Seaworld. They're small now and if I must I'll update to a 300+ gal.

Don't keep them if you can't take proper care of them, moron.

I'm fairly sure a 300+ gal tank thats 3 feet wide and maybe 7 feet long is plenty for an Aro or a Pacu. What you're refering to is a swimming pool, elitest prick.

Typical. Instead of starting small, people get the biggest fish they can and put them in a puddle.
Why not get a swarm of small fish instead?
Noooo, it must be a shark, cause my penor is small, so I can compensate.

Considering it takes ages before arowana or pacu grow to their true size, it shouldn't be that much of a problem in the short term. OP can probably sell his fish and get different fish if they get a bit too large.

Funny, I've had the exact same pair though I got the pacu after the arowana was a bit bigger.
They WILL get along fine at first, but as most said you will need a bit bigger tank as they grow. With my pair, I noticed that as the Arowana got larger (it's a silver arowana too, they're the cheapest!) It seemed to swim a lot more and seemed to stress the pacu out especially at night, so I seperated them. I don't own the Pacu anymore, and the arowana is still kicking it in the 250 I have. If anything, I suggest getting a glass lid and weight it down with bricks, and try to keep aquarium deco to a minimum. With 2 HUEG fish swimming around, things get knocked over, uprooted, and fish get scratches.
