Peat moss mixed with river sand or perilite for drainage

Distilled or soft rain water

Prefer full sun but will survive in part sun; acclimate plants kept in part sun to full sun gradually or they'll burn

High humidity

Require a winter dormancy or they'll die in spring

Susceptible to fungal infections and rot

Can be fertilized with very dilute fish emulsion

The winter dormancy thing turned out to be laughably easy:
Place the plant in a plastic bag.
Seal bag.
Place bag in the vegetable locker of the fridge.
Take plant out 3 months later.
Remove dead leaves.
???
Profit!

Also, never allow it to flower in the autumn or winter.

I loved my flytrap, but after its hibernation was over and it was starting to flower, people kept moving it out of the sun and it died

"ITS TOO COLD YET"

I put mine in a tiny greehouse, and set a plate in it, put a bunch of shiny rocks like you use for fish bowls on the plate and poured water on the rocks, so he'd soak it up (he was potted). I used a stick to prop the lid of the greenhouse up and let bugs in and put a washcloth on the lid to prevent heavy sun from lingering on it too long

set it behind a few objects so it'd few a few hours of full sun, and a few hours of half sun
