I'm moving to the bay area in the next year or so and I'm planning on getting a dog once I get there. What kind of dog does /an/ think would be good for an apartment dweller that will be at work all day but home the rest of the time?

pic related, it's what I'd buy if i had the money

fish, tarantula.
You're not doing a dog any favour if you're away all day long.

godamnit you dont BUY a dog. You could proably adopt one of those guys from a shelter with a 30$ donation. Not being home all day is fine for the most part? how long are you going to be out? what time of day? In all seriousness when looking for a dog (adpot from a shelter) try to find one that looks very calm and relaxed. One you don't think would mind sitting around all day. Alot of dogs (especially shelter dogs) have horrible anxiety issues, but there are some rly cool dogs out there that just wanna chill the fuck back like you.

Anyway good luck, hope you find what your looking for.

yeah older shelter dog ... like 3 year old or so lab/golden/pit mix could be crated during the day and walked when you get home.

One coming from a shelter or rescue. Those are the best breeds.

OP here.
I'm going to be out mostly a 9-5 kind of time for work. I just need to be sure I get a dog that can hang out by himself while I'm at work.

labrador or golden retriever need a lot more than just a walk.
they are hunting dogs and require a lot of outdoor activities.
absolutely not suitable for an apartment dweller who's at work all day.

IMO no dog should be alone for those amounts of time 5 days a week
But get a lazy dog and get someone to walk it once a day while you're gone
