Planet's names Anonymous
I've always loved linguistics and the differences/similiarities in our languages. One part I've spent time thinking about is our planet's name. It's Earth in english, but it has tons of other names and the thing about names is that, technically, they're all correct, according to the culture that gave them.

So, who knows some other names for this planet?

In all the animes i've watched when they talk about the earth they say Shikyu (spelling?)

'De aarde' in Dutch, much like Germans Erde.
Another word is 'de wereld', like English 'the world' and German 'die(?) Welt'.

In Sotho (a southern African Bantu language), 'lefase' means so much as the land that spreads out, the big world. 'Lebu', 'mebu', 'mabu', 'mobu' mean 'earth, soil'.

I also have a (little) interest in (international) linguistics or etymology, as in; where do words & dialects come from or how are these languages related or descendent. Great fun.

Terre refers specifially to earth as is dirt and all that. I think the word more commonly used to describe earth is Monde, which is the french word for world.
