God dammit /an/

I have a mouse problem.

As far as I can tell, it's only one (though I doubt that's actually the case) but he's gotten more bold (or they've gotten more numerous) recently and I've seen one run by me about a dozen times since yesterday

I know I have to get rid of them, but I am a squeamish, whiny little girl and they're really cute. The thought of coming home to a dead mouse kind of terrifies me. I live alone, so having my boyfriend 'take care of it' isn't an option.

Do they make humane mouse traps that will catch the little fuckers so I can just drive across town and dump them there? Where does one buy such things? I've only seen glue traps and the snappy kind in stores. I'm reluctant to put out poison because I own two rats and don't want to risk them possibly getting near it when I let them have floor time.

check your local grocery store. I've seen them at wal-mart in the aisle with rat traps and poison bait and such.

I would have thought mice would be afraid of a raging pussy.

Victor brand mouse traps, and buy the ones with the metal trigger, not the plastic "cheese" marketing gimmick. Also buy some raisins or dried cherries - it needs to be a dried fruit with a somewhat tough skin.

Wedge a raisin into the teeth on the curled end of the trigger; use a pliers (careful not to bend the rest of the trigger) if needed. Then make sure that the teeth get pressed down to hold the raisin in place.

Mice will then try tugging on the tough skin to free the whole raisin. SNAP!
I've had one dried cherry last long enough to kill 11 mice. Each one died with its teeth still in the cherry. It eventually lost its smell, and they stopped going for it.

The plastic clip things are crap. I bought some recently because they're what I could find.
They don't kill mice - they aren't strong enough. The mouse was prancing all over the place with this big clip firmly gripping its neck, but I finally had to press down on the to kill the mouse.

Oh, and, the thought of a dead mouse terrifies you? Geeeeez, come on. It could be worse - I had some rough paneling on the walls in the old house, from the previous owners. You think a dead one is bad, imagine having one run down the wall not 3 feet away. You'll want them all dead, and fast.

Victor traps, metal trigger, dried fruit. Kills them good, and they won't be back. But tie the trap down to something solid; sometimes they get a leg caught in it by accident, from simply stepping on it as they walk past - then they drag the trap into a wall, and they die there instead of where you can easily get them. Dead mouse decaying in wall = stink + disease breeding grounds.

Glue traps = the worst.
Mice and rats can literally be stuck suffering on these things for days and days. It's really gross and actually, kinda sad, too. You can't peel them off a glue trap. They just die of starvation on there. Pretty much it's torture. And torturing animals is for serial killers and assholes.

So don't buy a glue trap. You can order humane traps from http://www.humanemousetrap.info/
Humane traps aren't expensive and they really work. Over the summer, like 20 mice were in our house.. We got them in the traps and let them go in the park. =]

Try some peppermint oil.

Peppermint oil is a natural deterrent. The smell is simply too intense for rodents and they will not try to go near it. It also helps to mask the scent of any tasty morsels that have been missed when cleaning. You can get peppermint oil in most health food stores and even some major grocery stores. Place a drop or two on a cotton ball. Place the cotton balls in areas where mice are likely to enter your house, by doorways or heat vents, etc

worked for meh.. it will keep the mice out of your house.

Yeah, "humane" might be nice, but mice reproduce like the planet is 50x larger than it really is. You could bomb a city to the ground, and the mouse population really wouldn't suffer a major setback.
That's why I like the old snap-traps with dried fruit. It gives a good chance of a perfect neck-hit, which results in a quick death, and that particular mouse is 100% guaranteed to never bother anyone again.

Not scared of them, I just don't want to kill them. I'm freaked out by coming home to a dead on with a traditional snap-trap.

There are cheap little box traps that are sold in Walmart. I put a little piece of bread and peanut butter and slide it into the back of it. They trap the mouse and as long as you don't leave them in there for a long time, they'll live.
