So this morning I was in a "FUCK YEAH, I'VE GOT A PET!" mood and decided to take little Rasko there out for a run in the backyard.

I pick him up, place him on the ground as far away from the house as possible, and then he is seen as pictured here.

I'm running around, and even get at eye level, but he stares at me like an idiot; like a real person would.

Why is he so lazy? He's a puppy, he's outside, and has over an acre to romp around; he should be in dog nirvana.

Is there anything I can do to get him...motivated?

Because he won't run outside to play with me, but he'll sum up the energy in all six pounds of his frame to make a break back to the house inside.

He's maybe scared of the big surroundings... maybe motivate him with treats and toys?
Let him get to know the sounrroundings, it'll maybe take a while.

Gah, he's adorable. Maybe he's more in to toys than chasing people? Or maybe he'd enjoy playing with another dog more, like at a dog park. I work at a shelter as a socializer so I see lots of different dogs who like different kind of play. Some of the dogs only play with other dogs and aren't interested in people at all. There's one that was recently adopted who only played with three toys, and nothing else at all. Try a bunch of stuff until you find what he likes doing.

Also, to add, you probably don't want to encourage him to chase/wrestle with people anyway, since he's probably going to grow up to be really big and really strong.

I had a small accident with a Rottweiler once...

She was already quite big, not fully grown yet, but no puppy either.
So we were throwing a ball around with friends, and she would try to catch it. It was getting dark, and she didn't find the ball. I go over to it, and as i bend over to pick it up, she dashed towards it. She came from the side, so i didnt see her, and apparently she didnt see me either...
Well, just as my hand reached the ball, her forehead crashes into the side of my skull. I thought a train hit me...

She also liked to carry big sticks. So she had this 3' long and 2" thick stick, and tried to run through between two friends walking in front of us. Hit both of them in the back of the knees.

Make sure your dog is healthy. When my dog got sick, dangerously so, she lost all her energy and interest in play. If in doubt, check with a vet. My dog had a serious infection which would have been lethal if we hadn't taken her in soon enough.

well, he's still a puppy,& he'll be lazy for a while, but he's still getting use to u & ur home.

THIS THREAD IS NOW ABOUT DREAMY DOGS.

you exposed your dog to 4chan, didn't you?

I think it's because since it's a puppy, its stamina hasn't grown all the way up yet. I knew a Pembroke Welsh Corgi that would lay down in the middle of walks when it was younger. It's older now.
