Colony Collapse Disorder Anonymous
What does /an/ think about Colony Collapse Disorder in Bees?

Does anyone else see CCD as a huge threat to the way we live as humans? (Depending on pollination)

Please don't just link to or summarize the Wikipedia article, which if you didn't know is thus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colony_Collapse_Disorder#Possible_effects

Oh, and I know there's a Bee thread going on right now, but this is a different topic if you are willing to read what it's about.

Well, there's been all kinds of theories floating about, but apparantly it might just be a good old case of inbreeding.

See, CCD only seems to be a problem in North America, and apparantly the european honeybee stocks of North America is somewhat inbred, mainly in an attempt to increase yield.

The solution might be something as simple as getting some new blood into the gene pool via european honeybees exported from Europe.

I hope all the bees perish, regardless of what it spells for the rest of the world.

the day the bees die, is the day our environment dies.

That was a lie thought up by british bee farmers so the government wouldn't import tons of honey and eventually make them lose their jobs.

That's actually a quote from the bible and it is true.
Because without bees, plants will not be able to reproduce in a sufficient way, which will result in a drastic drop of farming crops.
E.G. we'd hunger.

you'd be surprised how few plants would be effected by the loss of honey bees. there are LOTS of wild species that can fill in the empty spot.

That may be true for "wild" nature.
In our industrialized farming economy it would pose a problem.
Farmers are already bitching.

PROTIP: bees aren't native to North America.
