So my girlfriend and I were on our way to the store, but right outside our apartment we found this little guy. I've never actually seen a chipmunk before and apparently this is a normal size? I was convinced it was a baby or something.

Also: OMGCUTE!

We were able to get really close to it. It might have been sick/hungry.

Also: Coke products, 2 for $12

Definitely very sick. Also, yes, adult.

We were going to try and feed it, but had no idea what we should give it. It also rounded a corner and disappeared from view before we could try. The only non-bird 'wildlife' I ever see here on a regular basis in Washington consists mostly of possums (boo) and squirrels (yay!). I was surprised to see this cute little dude scurrying about.

Perhaps you should bring it to a pet doctor.

I don't know where it skittered off to. For future reference, though, how does that work? Do I just take it to a veterinary hospital? Would I have to pay anything?

I would leave alone a sick animal, on the chance that the sickness is transferrable to humans (like, for instance, rabies).
>> Anonymous
Rodents won't give you rabies

What is wrong with possums? They are marsupials :(

Possums and Opossums are different animals. Some people think Possum is another word for Opossum, which is moronic.

When people say possum, they are likely referring to opossum, which sounds like possum depending on your pronunciation.

Um. Depends where you come from, amerikkan. This is an international board, you dipshit, and from what I hear possums, such as sugar gliders, are popular pets in amerikka anyway. So, opossum and possum --->two different beasties.

Oh, Washington? Yeah, the wildlife that regularly comes in contact with people around here is rather limited. When I was a kid, my dog brought a half dead garter snake into the house, which we nursed back to health and released a week later. That was pretty much the only other wild animal I've seen around here.

International, my ass. America rules this fucking place. Either way, taking in -any- sick animal(especially mammals) from the wild can be a risky proposition.

We've got a small family of them under the steps of my apartment. When ever I buy sunflower seeds or something at the store I leave some for them.

we aren't even allowed to keep sugar gliders as pets in Australia, and they are native here!
Actually, I'm pretty sure theres not many marsupials we can keep as pets, if any.

Really? I heard you just need a special license or something like that. I had a classmate back in Thailand who fed her Sugar Glider so much it became fat and couldn't glide anymore. It would just jump off the table and plop to the floor.
