Well, spur of the moment purchase. I was walking through a flea market and this guy was selling baby iguanas, baby monitors, ball pythons, and corn snakes. All were in good health.

So with the spare cash I had in my pocket I added a new member to my family. Cute guy.

After a few hours I managed to find an aquarium and begun setting up his enclosure. This is the final set up until he gets too big. I think he is enjoying it so far.

He has eaten a few peices of grapes, broccoli, lettuce, and surprisingly some yellow popcicle. The peices have been small, he hasnt eaten alot of anything yet. Id love to see him chow down so I know he wont go hungry but I have seen him eat a little so I'm not worried.

He does seem to want to eat his aqaurium plant, but luckily its abit too thick for him to bite any of it off. I'm hoping that by the time he is big enough to do so he will have learned that he has a food dish.

I mainly just wanted to show him off but any tips on teaching an iguana to use his food dish?

Till he dies because you're a fucking dumbass and don't know how to take care of something as complicated as an Iguana.

Infact, sage. Noone wants to hear about your Iguana's death sentence.

Wow...cause this is like totally the first like reptile I've EVER like owned...

I happen to have a rather large collection. This is my first iguana, not my first reptile or lizard.

I do happen to have the proper requirements for my iguana. He is eating, but he normally eats from my hand instead of his dish.

>spur of the moment purchase.
Its always a good idea to buy pets (especially reptiles that grow large) on spur of the moment, without much thought or research

enjoy your pet while its alive

I've considered getting them before so I had done research and had most of the stuff I needed laying around as spare parts for my other reptiles. That morning I didnt set out to purchase an iguana. I saw him, already had what I needed to take care of him and thought why not.

I dont know what's up with /an/ today but people don't come here to be flamed.

The iguana is doing great.

>>260074
Forgive me for letting him sample a few fruits and vegies to find out more about his likes and dislikes. Its not like thats his main menu.

I guess no one but you guys should ever own a pet then? Grow up and get over yourselves. I have an iguana and I know how to take care of it. I'm not some idiot, I know they arent easy like a dog or cat. I've had reptiles since I was a kid. Get lost

We don't KNOW what experience OP has, but we do have some clues:

"spur of the moment purchase"
"flea market guy"
"yellow popsicle"

...and it's difficult to tell from the OP's photo, but the color of the lighting makes it seem like there's no UV bulb in the enclosure. I'm also not seeing a thermometer. Granted the thermometer could simply be out-of-frame, but if the iguana is in the basking area there should be a thermometer there, in which case it most likely would be visible. I'm guessing there's not one.

...now then perhaps OP is infact a reptile expert. It's possible. But, from what little information OP has provided, that doesn't appear to be the case.

As I said, I researched and considered before and had almost everything . I just didnt set out that morning with the intent of getting him.

Also where he is isnt closest to the UV bulb. He has a branch that goes higher up that he goes to when he's wants more heat.

I was hot so i got a popsicle, he showed interest so I let him check it out.

If your UV bulb is putting out heat and isn't a halogen you're an idiot.

Yea. thx for the website it was an interesting read but it says I'm fine.

The problem with bulbs is that most are labeled as full spectrum and don't produce UV rays, the full spectrum only meaning the full spectrum of visible light. This didnt used to be the case, but since there arent any regulations on the production and labeling of these bulbs some producers take the easy way out.

There are exceptions to that. The following list are companies that don't falsly label there products.

>Blacklights( BL Blacklights; not blue or black incandescent light bulbs*)
>DayCycle (TetraTerrafaun)
>Iguana Light and Reptile Light (Zoo Med)ƒ
>Lumichrome 1XX Full Spectrum Fluorescent Plus
>Repti-Glo, Sun-Glo (Hagen)
>Repti-Sun (Zoo Med; replaced by their newer Iguana and Reptile Lights)ƒ
>Reptile Daylight (Fluorescent; by ESU)#
Reptile-D Light (National Biological)+
>Ott Light (available in Europe - Vita-Lite makes a comparable product)
>Vita-Lite (Fluorescent tubes, not compacts; made by Durotest)

Following that, ZooMed's bulbs produce more UV in comparison to similarly labeled competitor bulbs.

and about the bulb itself.

The PowerSun UV™ is a self-ballasted mercury vapor lamp which emits UVA, UVB and heat all in one lamp! Fits into a standard ceramic socket. (No ballast needed.) The 160 Watt projects UVB up to several feet from the lamp’s surface and is ideal for large terrariums or bird aviaries. Features include quality nickel plated threads to prevent against corrosion, and a full one year warranty!
