Your scorpion wouldn't give a damn about having a mouse in the first place, you could have given it mealworms and crickets like any other owner.

Given that, the assumption here is that you gave the scorpion a live mouse AND filmed it for Jewtube for the sole purpose of finding it "entertaining".

I hope one day somebody unleashes their pet mongoose on your scorpion and films it on Jewtube. See if you find that shit funny.
>> Anonymous
>>211802
Underage? I'm 22. If you read the info I've made the comment that I was showing my cousins, who are in fact children how my scorpion eats its prey. And what's in human about feeding a predator something it would naturally find and eat in the wild?

>>211815
Not OP btw. But seriously? You turn on animal planet all the time and see stuff like this, only in the wild. My scorpion doesn't LIKE crickets and mealworms. She prefers mice, so I feed her mice. Because you know, as a responsible pet owner I take care of my pets.

Has it ever occurred to you that you are NOT fucking animal planet, and you are NOT doing a fucking documentary? Your scorpion is a PET, living in a terranium in a suburban house, and you're uploading the video for shits and giggles.

I am sure the average pet mongoose would vastly prefer live scorpions to whatever chow they get, and I'm pretty sure the average cat or dog would vastly prefer a fat little live guinea pig to whatever cornmeal chow they get.

Do you think the average cat or dog owner are being irresponsible for not getting their animals to tear into a squaling bleeding creature every day?

Well gee I don't fucking know, so why DON'T we feed our cats and dogs live guinea pigs instead of that stupid cornmeal chow those evil corporate monsters are selling us?

morality in regards to the mouse aside, what kind of bedding is that?? looks like wood chips? also looks pretty dry.

switch over to something like coconut fiber (ground coconut husk) and keep it moist in at least one corner or half. not soaking..just moist. emperors (Pandinus imperator..learn the real name. ;) ) like humid environments. have you ever seen your scorpion standing over or in the water dish?

as for the mouse. feeding live vertebrate prey is up to the owner of the predatory species in question. the only time i've ever fed an invert a live vert, was after my snakes had all refused to eat it. which was also early in my snake keeping..i no longer feed live food to my snakes. (hell, i now only have one snake, and it's not even directly in my care.)

well, i see in your comment that the container wasn't the regular home of the scorpion. so my apologies if you have it on appropriate, and moist, substrate. as for you saying "it never even stung" you'll find that to be common with P. imperator. generally, scorpions with large chela (pincers) crush their prey with their pincers. scorpions with slender chela, grasp and sting. such as this scorpion.

>>211833
Price and diet. I'd have no problem if I could afford a $20 fucking animal at least once every single fucking day.

You know, I'm not a rich bastard.

On the other hand, you can get feed mice for $.30.

Please come back with a real argument.

>>211832
No, you're right. We're not. So, what? We should stop eating all meat because we can survive with a vegeterian diet? Or is the actual problem having to deal directly with a living animal?

Unfortunately our food technology isn't currently able to provide us with the same nutrition as nature is yet.
>> Anonymous
>>211837

I don't think you are understanding a word of what I am saying.

Yes, it is true that occasionally, an emperor scorpion hunts small mice in the wild if it is large enough to do so.

It is also true that, for example, humans farm animals to butcher them and eat their meat.

However, that has little to do with say, Ozzy Osbourne chomping off a bat's head in a concert while on camera and pretty much going "booyah, aren't I such a cool guy for doing it".

That's what OP is doing. OP isn't being a "responsible owner" or "trying to meet the dietary requirements of his pet scorpion", OP just killed a live mouse in a pretty painful way, then thought it entertaining enough to uploaded a video of its death for shits and giggles.

Seriously, what do you think the video is going to achieve? Educate the readers in that "oh wow, scorpions can be fed live feed?"

I'd say 3-4 feeder mice would be equivalent to the price of a can of premium pet chow. So do tell me, why aren't you serving their wriggly bottoms in Fido's dish?

Also, guinea pigs breed really fast. If you were dedicated enough, I'd say you'd be able to raise your animals on them.
>> Anonymous
>>211843
There is a big difference between Ozzy and the scorpion.

OP just dropped a mouse in the cage even though the scorpion didn't originally want it. What happened then? The scorpion killed the mouse like it would in nature, right?

How often do emperor scorpions hunt mice in the wild? Do most do it? At least half?

All OP did was feed a live animal that the scorpion would probably eat in nature and laugh about it. What is immoral about that?
>> Anonymous
>>211835
I was actually worried about feeding it a pinkie at first. But as I mentioned, she wasn't eating the crickets or meal worms. So I asked a friend a more experienced with exotics what would be a something safe to feed her, and she suggested pinkies. My last EMP died because his skin didn't stretch well enough during molting, and he had gone three months without food. (I left crickets in there for him, but I think something might've been wrong with his digestive system.) Regardless, I didn't want the same thing happening to her, so I make sure that she's well moist and eats well. I spray her a few times a day, and keep her where my heater is during the colder days. That's what that smaller container is for, because it would be a pain to constantly move her tank around.

>>211849
Feed mice are $.30. Do you pay that much for a week and a half of premium food? I pay $40 for about a week and a half.

My dog weighs 78 pounds and runs with me twice a day, 45 minute each session and then runs around my backyard with the neighbors dog while I'm away for three hours a day.

Are feed mice a part of my breed's normal diet? No.

Can I afford traveling to a pet store every day for feed? No.

Do I have the ability to feed feed mice with enough nutrition for it to satisfy my big dog? No.

Do I have the ability to store enough feed mice for my dog to eat for an entire week?

No. The list goes on and on.
>> Anonymous
>>211851

I wouldn't even recall that I laughed at it. My cousins gave a few ooos and aaaahs, and the boys chuckled. I myself was intrigued with what was going on because predators fascinate me.
>> Anonymous
>>211851

Emperor scorpions, while it is known that they will if they get big enough, rarely hunt mice in the wild, nor are live mice required for their survival. It's not their normal diet.

It IS as useless as Ozzy Osbourne chomping off a bat's head. Then Do tell me, are you about to say there was any other purpose than "entertainment" in uploading a video like that?

You know, I heard human meat is pretty nutritious for big game animals. Maybe I should throw OP into a tiger's cage. I mean, the tiger would shred and maul OP just like the tiger did in the wild, so there's no problems about it, right?
>> Anonymous
>>211843
Did it occur to you that people like to see predators eat their kill? It can be interesting, not for shits and giggles, but generally intriguing.

It's not SICK to be fascinated by a natural occurrence. It's not like the children in the video were fapping while watching the death of the mouse. The mouse wasn't anyone's pet. It was a mouse bought at a store to feed an animal that needed to be fed.

Probably the reason why she didn't take it right away was because the children were a bit load, but they quieted it down towards the other half of the video. Scorpions like to eat in quiet places.
>> Anonymous
>>211860

Oh look, OP even had retard genetically related brood around to watch this highly fascinating and entertaining moment where a helpless creature was being killed in an extremely painful manner. Because, you know, that's totally rad, and SOOOOO CASH.

They were oooohing and aaaaahing over it.

I am guessing OP is the kind of person who sits out there in the sun with a magnifying glass to burn small insects to death, goes out in the rain on purpose to step on the snails that come out.

This being 4chan, I wouldn't be surprised if OP watches snuff porn.
>> Anonymous
>>211862
Whoa, whoa. Who's the sicko here now? Is a human being the same as a rodent? I don't think so. What other purpose would that mouse serve if it wasn't fed to my scorpion? Mice are generally vermin and prey animals if people don't keep them as pets. That's their purpose in the world. Nothing more or less. And as I said, it's not like I was feeding someone's pet to the scorpion, I wouldn't do that to the person.

Yes, I would be upset if someone decided to feed my scorpion to their pet mongoose. After all, I put the time and effort to care for it properly and enjoy its presence. I've spent a good 100+ bucks on her environment along to make sure she lives a comfortable life. But if an owner of a mongoose wants to go and spend 25 bucks on a scorpion to give their mongoose a tasty treat, then I don't seen the problem with that. They're just showing their pet some luvin.
>> Anonymous
>>211864

Did it occur to you it is unnatural to want to see predators eat their kill? Do you see hordes of springboks crowd back around and watch the chomp off a zebra carcass? You do see hyenas do that shit, but they're waiting to snatch the carcass away.

Nevertheless, the Romans had a great civilization, and they set wild animals on other people for entertainment. I'm sure you wouldn't mind if OP was placed in one of their circuses. And derive fascination and entertainment from it. After all, it's all very natural, and OP isn't anyone's pet, OP was just born in this world to be thrown into a pit of lions.
>> Anonymous
>>211865
I enjoy how you make assumptions about a human being you've never met before in your life. The children, aren't in fact related. They're three siblings that were orphaned that my aunt and uncle decided to adopt. <3

I really don't like ants. They can be a nuisance to the yard. And have you ever accidentally stepping in an ant pile? Not fun. Which is why I use ant poison on them. It's much more efficient that way.

Seriously, you've moved away from a somewhat valid argument to stooping down to grade school insults. You're really not worth responding to anymore.

>>211867

What purpose does a human serve? Are we strong? Do we have thick hides that protect us? Are we naturally endowed with weapons?

We're all wimpy little prey animals in the end too, just like the mice. I won't be too surprised if some alien civilization decided to invade us, and keep us in perspex cages with the words "feeder humans, a small tithe of whatever currency" tacked onto it.

Also, you'd be retarded to think that a scorpion would even know that the mouse was an act of love from you.
>> Anonymous
>>211862
You didn't answer my question. What percentage of emperor scorpions eat mice?

That depends. I don't know what the OP's intentions were, but yes, there are. It might be an amature attempt at learning feeding habits, animal psychology, and so on.

It may not be the most effective method of doing so, but neither is teaching your kids about birth by letting them witness a live puppy birth.

Humans weren't meant to feed the tigers, were they? Not only that, but how much more complex is a tiger's diet than a scorpions?

How much energy expenditure is there? Not only that, but do you honestly consider all animals equal?

Let's try a hypothetical. You can either get medical attention for arbitrary bird. 90% of survival, or you can get medical attention for arbitrary human. 40% of survival.

What do you do? Save the human.

Like it or not, but humans even if it's arbitrary humans will be more important in our minds than mice. Not only is it built in to us through evolution, but depending on what you consider to be important it's true.

>>211865
Tune into any show about wild lions. Ever watch them take down big game? Should we force them to eat what we consider to be morally good, or do we let them hunting animals like they have for however long they've been around?

Shit, I wonder how many people enjoy watching a lioness hunt. You don't think it's a beautiful thing to see nature in all it's glory, or do lions bother you?
>> Anonymous
>>211871
Why do people like watching animals hunt? Is it disgusting for a human to enjoy watching an alligator working?

>>211873
That depends. On a grand scale, nothing. So why don't we just nuke the planet? Nothing is matters until you make it matter. Right?

If we get taken over by an alien race, yes. It sucks. But going back to the universal thing, would it be morally wrong? ONLY if we considered it to be.

I don't think it's wrong, it'd just plain suck.

But we have much more potential than any mouse.

We don't need survivability to be important. Do you think Stephen Hawking could survive on his own? How much has he contributed to society?

I think a hell of a lot.

So... Anonymous donations don't mean anything? What I see you saying is that if the person or thing doesn't know you gave it something then it's not worth it.
>> Anonymous
>>211872

Those siblings are genetically related to each other, and also are fascinated with things killing things at that age. Chances are, they'll grow up just fine, with a slightly worrying predisposition to be unnecessarily cruel to anyone they consider beneath them.

In fact, gee, that sounds like the average redneck.

Yes, ants a nuisance to the yard, how dare they exist in our yards, etc etc etc. Not that ants know anything at all about this "yard" business humans keep talking about. You know, now that I think about it, governments do that too. Aboriginals are a nuisance to the deserts, how dare they exist in the deserts, let's line the flour with strychrine since their purpose was to just be trash anyway.

It must be nice to have the power to deem anything weaker than you a "nuisance" or assign them a "purpose" and give yourself the ability to do whatever you want to them.

>You didn't answer my question. What percentage of emperor scorpions eat mice?

What percentage of emperor scorpions do you think grow large enough in nature to hunt mice?

A very small percentage.

It's just like the bird-eating spiders: They don't eat birds. They're just called that because the largest of their specimen have been documented to eat them on this one-off rare occasion.

>Humans weren't meant to feed the tigers, were they? Not only that, but how much more complex is a tiger's diet than a scorpions?

Your thoughts are just obscured by the fact that you're human yourself. I am sure to a tiger, humans exist as easy prey, and therefore exist to feed a tiger. It's certainly slower than a rabbit, and yields more meat.

Also, why do you think this is about a wild animal? This is about a pet that's kept in a domestic environment that has the choice not to be fed a superflous diet. Also, it's a retarded argument to say that such a video was in any way educational. Next minute, you'd be stating Japanese Bug Fights serve a scientific purpose, and Girls Gone Wild is an accurate portrayal of feminity.

>>211887
I don't know. You seem to know, can you give me an idea?

I'd appreciate your sources too.

I already mentioned that it may because I'm human. But once again... morality is subjective. Humans once again have MORE potential than any other creature than we know of.

We can both agree on that, right?

Tell me, what was stupid about filming that as a sort of crude documentary?
>> Anonymous
>>211886
Well, humans could be wiped out as easy as any other species when you consider something like a comet hitting us. Yes, humans have an obligation to each other as members of a species. But, at the same time we should realize that it's not like we're so damn important in the grand scheme of things.
>> Anonymous
>>211894
Agreed. Like I said, things matter only if you make them.

Nature doesn't really care about all of us, it just follows its own laws.
>> Anonymous
>>211886

What do you think ultimately sets a human apart from any other animal?

We build houses - wasps build houses. We raise our young and become attached to them - uh, so do a majority of animals. We form societies - so do lemmings. We use fire! So to certain types of trees!

The only thing that really sets us apart is the fact that we can empathise with another creature taht we don't immediately recognise as part of "us". That abolished slavery. It's why we can keep pets, run animal shelters, wildlife reserves. It's why we try to find a more efficient, less painful method of butching our cattle. Because when we stare into its eyes, a small part of our mind whispers: "that could have been me".

You demanding that I make a case that "all animals are equal" is a flawed argument. The entire point is, we as humans know better than to throw a baby mouse for shits and giggles to a slow painful death, and then upload it on youtube for entertainment.

>>211891

Just because you SAY that it's a documentary, it doesn't automatically make it a documentary. Youtube, last I heard, was not a peer-reviewed scientific publication. The reality of the video is a bully who throws a helpless living creature to a painful death.

Also, you can go search for the sources yourself. It's common sense and common knowledge. How many species of scorpions are even known to hunt the smallest of animals? Will you also insist that unless I provide a scientific journal that explains why the damn sky is blue, the damned sky ISN'T blue?

If humans have the "oh so much more potential" I am so fucking glad we're using the "oh so much more potential" to throw a mouse at a scorpion when it isn't even its normal diet.
>> Anonymous
>>211898
Congrats then for being a much better human the rest of us. But I don't think this will make OP stop feeding her scorpion a mouse, especially when she stated that it prefers a mouse over crickets or worms.

And I also is doesn't convince the rest of us that you're not stupid. Go eat a salad and let the rest of us enjoy this barbaric display of animal handling.
>> Anonymous
>>211898
Once again, ultimately it's nothing.

If I'm looking at it as an animal or an inhabitant of Earth, then I'll repeat myself. We have much more potential.

You're oversimplifying this. Do wasps understand the workings of atoms? Do wasps build computer networks which allow them to send signals into outerspace, or allow them to develop medicines which help victims of depression, our travel to space?

Once again, I'll ask you.

Let's try a hypothetical. You can either get medical attention for arbitrary bird. 90% of survival, or you can get medical attention for arbitrary human. 40% of survival.

What do you do?

Save the human? Why, there is only a 40% chance of survival.

Save the bird? Why, a higher chance of survival? So then you think animals are equal.

Which is it? Would you really save a bird instead of a human?

What do you think of http://youtube.com/watch?v=z0MusD_I2x8 ? Worthless video because it wasn't published in a peer review journal?

Common sense? Common knowledge? That means that a pretty decent percentage of people know about emperor scorpions and their eating habits, doesn't it?

Define common for me.

You're trying to change what I'm saying again.

Do all people try to reach their full potential? No, some people don't even get the chance.

Does feeding a live mouse to a scorpion change your potential to cure cancer? No, not even close.

Do you agree?

Kudos to OP at feeding her pet something that it actually wants, since it sounded liket he damn thing would have been unhealthy if it DIDNT eat something. She went to an experienced person and they said try pinkies, so she did, and it worked. It's only a plus that she recorded it, and it really doesnt change anything about her actions besides the fact that she wanted to share the experience.

Though I will admit, these three are certainly not sheltered. They lived a pretty harsh life in Guatemala before my Aunt and Uncle adopted them. However, pinkies are NOT the normal diet of an emperor scorpion. I don't even know where the fuck this "nutritional purposes" came from. This is about as logical as Asians insisting dog meat should be eaten for "nutritional purposes".

The emperor scorpion DIDN'T even eat the fucking pinkie. It was still alive at the end of the film.

>>212145

And what is so rational about feeding an emperor scorpion something that is not part of its natural diet, and filming it pretty much torturing the mouse for shits and giggles throughout the entire film?

If you cannot show any sort of emotion, not even disgust, over kids laughing over a mouse screaming, and insist upon treating it as though it is some sort of vague philosophical question, then you are the one whose logic is inherently flawed.

This IS a snuff film. It is not a film of a normal scorpion feeding.

Shut the hell up.

The hell is wrong with eating dog meat?

I feed my bearded dragons pinkies as an occasional treat. It provides lots of juicy nutrients and fat.

Scoprians are also not kept in glass tank in their natural enviroment. Nor are they kept at their optimum heat all the time in the wild.

Just because something doesn't happen in their natural enviroment does not mean it a bad thing.

As a responsible pet owner, you give your pet the very best you can. Clean habitat, proper heat and good nutritious food.

Kids are kids, they laugh because they do not see what wrong with it.

And by the way, animals cannot torture one another. Torture implies malicious intent, animals are not malicious.

>Shut the hell up.
NO U. This is /an/, not fucking /b/.

>The hell is wrong with eating dog meat?
So you say that dog meat has extra "nutrition" that other meat doesn't provide?

>I feed my bearded dragons pinkies as an occasional treat. It provides lots of juicy nutrients and fat.

So? Since when was fat and animal protein any part of a scorpion's diet? Also, you're more likely to be shortening your bearded dragons' life by feeding it pinkies. There's a reason why responsible cat and dog owners on /an/ don't give their pets a pinkie as a "nutritious treat".

>Just because something doesn't happen in their natural enviroment does not mean it a bad thing.
It is BECAUSE it isn't in their natural environment that this is a bad thing. This entire thing was within the control of OP. An adult human who ought to have known better.

>As a responsible pet owner, you give your pet the very best you can. Clean habitat, proper heat and good nutritious food.

If you can't feed it good nutritious food and all you can do is give it something that is not part of its natural diet for "nutrients", maybe you shouldn't keep the fucking "pet" at all.

>Kids are kids, they laugh because they do not see what wrong with it.

And what did OP do? Certainly not reprimand the kids, but encourage them. Heck, the video's even up on Youtube! You know, because other people would want to laugh at the mous screaming in pain too!

>And by the way, animals cannot torture one another. Torture implies malicious intent, animals are not malicious.

Hm, so if I throw you in a cage of lions to have them maul you and film the process, oh, and have you know, other spectators giggling over it, obviously, I did not torture you because it was the lions that committed the physical act, and therefore there was no intent.

This isn't a chance encounter in the wild: it's OP purposely choosing a helpless creature thrown in an enclosed space for a "feeding" that did not happen.

Kids may be kids, but when I was younger I never laughed at this sort of thing.

It has always disgusted me. An animal screaming in pain was never funny.

Common mistake.

There is nothing illogical about it, just like there is nothing illogical about killing people.

If your goal is to learn more about the animal first hand then feeding it an animal is perfectly logical.

If your goal is to get thrown in jail then killing people is perfectly logical.

Logic is a tool, just like math. Killing people can be either logical or illogical depending on your goals, or assumptions, and so on.

Feelings have _nothing_ to do with logic, at all. If I laugh at 9/11, the Holocaust, and genocide that doesn't make me at all illogical.

Those things alone, what do they have to do with being able to figure out whether A = A is true?

Going back to the natural diet thing, once again. Other people have said it is, you're saying it's not.

Which one of you is right?

ITT pretentious sissies. The same ones who are saying "OH GOD HOW COULD YOU DO THAT TO THE MOUSE" are the ones who probably set glue traps in their house when they have mice so that they starve to death.

You're an idiot. You obviously don't get pet ownership.

Bearded dragons are perfectly fine having the occasional pinkie, just don't make it a habit. Do you even own a beardie?

Cats and dogs are domesticated asshole. That why the only dogs that hunt are hunting dogs, and all they do is drag the food back. Same with cats, they rarely eat their kills.

A treat, is a treat. Not good if it's all the animal eats, but a nice addition to a balanced diet.

Personally, I disagree with live feeding, unless it's necessary, but, that's not the issue.

Natural enviroment has nothing to do with it. in the wild, scorps do not have ideal food readily available to them all the time. yet do we not feed them for a week? no. Do we sometimes turns the heaters off for a day? no. responsible pet care is about providing THE BEST for the animal. obviously, you don't get it.

and what the fuck is all this about "animal protein not being part of a scorpions natural diet"? WAKE THE FUCK UP.

About the kids. Again, kids for whatever reason are attracted to gross shit. they giggle. they can't understand what's wrong.

You seem to be confusing humans and animals again. you don't seem to realize that animals cannot have complex emotions such as hate or malevolence. suprise, dickwad, animals are governed by instinct. they cannot torture, they cannot be sadists, they cannot feel shame.

Why do I get the feeling that you're 14 years old and furfag?
>> Anonymous
why do so many people care so much about freaking mice? they run around in people's houses and they get caught in traps and get burnt, crushed, or get their necks broken and no one cares about those. you people just care about pet owners feeding their pets treats that are bred and sold specifically as treats for things like bearded dragons, snakes and emperor scorpions. BFD.

Nothing wrong with feeding mice to a scorpion

The only thing I can think of is,why did you feed it a live pinkie? Especially for it's first time. I just don't see why you wouldn't feed her a thawed pinkie. Also, there is nothing wrong with filming the feeding but it was more than a bit disturbing, animal shrieks of pain + children's laughter = nausea.
