Is this where general science questions go, or should I go to /g/?

Anyways, does anyone here like astronomy? Is there any point in pursuing an astronomy degree?

Hubble Ultra Deep Field related.

Right board, I think. People just love fluffy animals here so much. I'm not an astronomer, but I think the point is that there's a lot of fucking cool stuff out there.

Fucking loved astronomy! ...untill i took a class in it.
Less "here is a ton of cool shit in the universe" and more "lets find out how far away this planet is by using parallax and triangulation"

Then again, i've never been a fan of math...

it's very interesting stuff but the basics of just about anything is always shitty

Sagan is my god. I would want to discover an ELE asteroid and name after my mom in law.

I am a psych and English major. The only college science course I got an A in was astronomy (I still don't quite understand why, but that's what happened). When I was a kid, I used to spend hours watching those TLC and Discovery Channel programs about black holes and whatnot. I was obsessed with black holes.

Astronomy is insanely cool but I can't imagine the average astronomer's salary is worth all the horrible tedious work that comes with it. Well I guess the NASA guys do pretty well.

We're pretty open-minded here in /an/. It's not just animals, it's animals & nature. And natural sciences quite often fall within nature as it's understood here. Geology, astronomy, climatology etc. It doesn't have to be alive to be part of nature.

Then again, people here are more likely to be able to answer questions about organisms than celestial bodies or chemistry here...
