So, I'm considering of becoming a vet or at least applying for the schooling or something similar.

Preferably looking forward to experiencing myself in the field anesthetic or that kin of stuff. Maybe considering of to becoming a surgeon.

My question to you is: What are the stuff that an average vet should do before applying for the education. Keeping pets? Riding horses? Learning about animals or whatnot? I don't feel that I naturally get along with animals too well so help me out on this one, okay.

volunteer in a shelter.

If you are not comfortable around animals, why do you want to be a vet?

Well, it's not like I'm not comfortable around animals, but that I don't know how to handle animals in general due lack of experience. All vets seem to be real animal lovers but I'm more interested in the technical stuff.

Hunt
Seriously, buy a gun, become familiar with your local seasons, go kill something, gut it, clean it, and take it home and put it in your freezer...you can take it out later and dont have to cook or eat it...but just keeping it your freezer for a few weeks after killing and disembowling it should be good enough.

Having several vets in my extended family, and being in my first year myself, this is the easiest way to know if you are prepared for vet school. Volunteering in a shelter or working in a animal hospital comes in second. Though you are gonna need lots of hours of volunteering/work in the field before the vet schools let you in anyway so I guess you don't really need to go hunting.

You are going to have to cut things up, kill things, shove your hand up a horses ass/vagina, shove your hand up a cows ass/vagina, jack off pigs (yes it is not as fun as you think), pop bloated cows and feel around in their guts an put it into coolers to send to the state vet lab, cut off dog heads for the same reason, clean maggots out of prolapsed rectums and uteruses, clean up vomit after shit after vomit after shit for years before you get your safe little small animal clinic where you don't make jack shit becuase of all the other pussys that only want to work with dogs/cats/small animals...and it's still all vomit and piss and shit and dead dogs and cats. Have fun.

The real money is in large animals, horses, cattle, pigs...unless you are exeptional and can gain market share from all the other pussy small animal vets somehow.

If I haven't deterred you then welcome to the club and good luck :)

You want to be a biologist then, or work in a vet lab, or work somewhere else in the industry

80% of being a vet is not dealing with animals though...it is dealing with their owners. But if animal owners think their pet does not like you or you handle it funny then you are fucked, they will go to the clinic down the street.

Dont' worry though, you'll have plenty of experience by the time you are a vet, vet school makes sure of it. Also you will be required to have hours in a clinic or with a vet so that will help too...so you might as well get started, volunteering is free last I checked. Be prepared to clean up vomit and piss and shit and blood.

Thanks, that is truly helpful. I never though of it like that before, in terms of the routine. Anyhow, if I'm up for it I prolly focus on the farming and such animals rather than the cats and dogs and all the small housepets. I'm not too afraid to kill or any of that nasty stuff. Not that I enjoy it, like any person would naturally feel.

Well, biologist could be one option since like I said, it's the technical stuff that I feel interesting, not the fuzzy little cute creatures and all that sort of stuff.

im an animal lover and do dog grooming....ive realized that i need to know more about dog behavior myself....maybe the same would be good for you,.To learn more about dog/cat behavior..so that you can handle them better.
