My cat hasn't been drinking water. Anonymous
I'm afraid that he might become dehydrated, so I held him down and used an eyedropper to give him about 3mL of water. Is this a bad idea, or should I give him more?

How about... I dunno... A VET?

Cats usually get most of the water they need from their food.

My cat refuses to drink anything but running water. Try turning on the bathroom sink for him?

So it's not one of those rare immortal cats I hear rumors about on the internets? Darn.

they like fresh water. maybe water in his bowl is too warm?
i don't think you should force him to drink water, but if this really continues to puzzle you, seeing the vet is your best option. some infirmities can cause rapid renal failure.

PINCH HIM.

No really. If you pinch him, say on the shoulders or back, his skin should snap right back into place. If it doesn't, he's about a foot from death's door, and holy shit get him to a goddamn vet for IV fluids.

Forcing water into his mouth is just going to drown him. Give him delicious canned food and yummy moist things to keep his hydration up until he quits being a shithead and drinks. You could try fixing yourself a glass of water, making a big show of how delicious it is, then conveniently leave it somewhere he can get to it (cats always seem to want in your drink, especially if it is something they cant have). You should get him to a vet anyway to be sure there is not some reason he isn't drinking.

Hijacking for a similar question. I've noticed recently that my cat takes like one lap of water than laps at the air for like 10 laps before taking another sip. It reminds me of how a person with bad teeth, like myself, is sensitive to cold and has to make whatever I'm drinking warm before I let it touch my teeth. I wonder if that's what her problem is? I don't think she did that before. Or maybe it's normal, I don't know.

For some odd reason my Cat Loves soapie water, or water drained off in the shower. My cat loves to go into the shower and lick the water off the floor for some odd reason. It's just a suggestion but you could try that.

Yes, soap is oh-so-healthy for us all.

The best method is this- but one of these and the cat will surely drink from it. Running water without opening the taps all the time.

That is a bad sign, possibly due to kidney problems. Has your cat shown any balance (walking or jumping) problems? Urine extra smelly??
