>>137797 Whippets are not hunting dogs. They are miniaturized hunting dogs. The dogs they were bred from were bred to chase. They are not bred to catch and maul. Their whole point was to spot prey animals, and chase them and keep them occupied until humans could get there and kill them. That's not to say whippets are useless, but that your allowance that they are hunting dogs is inherently false.
A responsible owner would not allow his dog to attack small animals. If you knew he would do this, you should never have gotten the kitten. However, you could have saved his life and allowed your dog a great friend by introducing them properly. You should have had them meet with some kind of barrier between them, such as putting them both in kennels and placing the kennels nearby. There are quite a few ways to introduce an aggressive animal to an animal you do not wish it to be aggressive to, and a simple Google search would have kept the kitten healthy. Please be sure to check your dog's wounds and apply antibiotics to keep him from getting sick. If you he gets sick and you must take him to a vet, he will have to be sedated all the time because of the other animals there. If you do not allow him to be sedated (it can get expensive) and he tears up another pet.. expect to be sued. You have brought this upon yourself, and your dog is the one that will suffer for it.
Would you tolerate a child tearing apart a kitten? Why not? The kid doesn't know any better, it's in his nature to learn, he certainly didn't mean anything malicious by it, just doing what was natural. Why is one thing okay and the other not? The general rule is to do nothing to an animal that you would not do to a child. It is an understood to not allow an animal to do anything you would not allow a child to do. (continued)
