WTF?

isn't that incredibly bad for the dog's hips? large dogs have enough issues with that area without having a human ride him around
>> FangTheBeast

I can totally see the attraction, but I think being pulled around in a cart by an hueg dog would be almost as good and better for the dog.

I used to ride my dog when I was a kid and he DID develop hip problems. It may have been genetic (he was a boxer/rot cross, stout and over 100lbs.
I do not think it's a good idea.
>> Anonymous
When you think about it, if the dog weighs like 200 pounds and a kid was say 30 or 40, wouldn't that be like a person with a heavy backpack? In fact, can't you get back packs for dogs?

Granted, riding would probably concentrate much of the weight on one part of the dog's back, but if spread out it might be ok.

Still probably not the best thing to do with your dog, though...

That dog is huge. That means it has huge guts.

I can understand your disapproval of the kids riding dogs, but the dog pulling the cart probably loves it. huskies love pulling sledges, hell all dogs love pulling stuff and running about. It must take less strain to pull that cart than a badly trained dog would cause just by pulling on its leash on the way to the park.

You are correct. That person freaking out about a dog pulling a cart is just being an irrational peta fag.. a child could pull that person in the cart. It's the same idea as pulling around a friend of similar, or even heavier, weight through a swimming pool - the energy is distributed and not focused all into a few muscles. The tards actually riding the dogs really are the only ones putting strain into the animals' muscles (which I agree is horrible on their spines, go buy a fucking horse).

Science!

This anon knows what they're talking about. We used to have a beagle that we had adopted as an adult that was batshit crazy. We'd take him out and he'd pull on the leash so hard that his eyes would be bright red and he'd foam at the mouth and choke and his nose would be blue.

We trained it out of him, it didn't take long...but damn, it got tiring carrying him back.

Says here a healthy adult dog can carry 1/3 its weight.

Still looks like the riding isn't a good thing to try, but kind of interesting.
