Hey /an/, I have a ferret and have had her for about a month now. She's well adjusted and playful, but we feel she needs a companion. However, we don't want another ferret, she's already a handful as it is.

What do you think would be the best animal to get for her company?

Cat. I'm not terribly familiar with ferrets but I've heard that cats and ferrets can get along, and anything else seems like it'd cause predator/prey issues.

rodents are a bad idea since they are natural prey. A kitten may be a better choice. But in all honesty, getting another ferret would be the best option. Any other animal would be a lot of extra work.

just make sure it's a cat that doesn't act violent normally. I have this very skiddish cat that hates play fighting because she's scared so easily. When I had a ferret for a few months, she LOVED it. They played all the time.
I'm only basing this on one situation though. Some cats attack ferrets and some ferrets attack cats. You kind of have to judge on their personality. A 6 month old kitten would probably work well.

Another ferret would really be best, but if not, adopt a slightly older kitten (not real tiny or the ferret could hurt it)

two ferrets are less maintenance, they keep each other busy

Don't get a cat, it'll just kill your ferret when you're not looking.
