okay anon., I used to love the original Pokemon season, and I've noticed that all of the original 150 are based on real animals/plants, lets see if we can get all 150!

bonus points for that one with the mushrooms that I cant remembers name and pictures of the animals depicted as the pokemon or the exact breed

staryu = starfish (everyone knows that)

squirtle/wartortle/blastoise = turtle

Try bulbapedia instead. Much more info, stats also (assuming that you do play the games).

And then there's Voltorb/Electrode, Magnamite/Magneton, Clefairy/Clefable, Jigglypuff, Jynx, Onix, Geodude/Graveler, Golem, Grimer/Muk, Ditto, Koffing/Weezing, Machop/Machoke/Machamp, Porygon, Hitmonlee/Hitmonchan, Magmar...

OP sure didn't think this through, did he?

Oh. I always assumed it was a half-ape half-tiger half-electric generator.

Somehow that reminded me of those tigorillas of system shock... now that was an awesome game.

actually, if you look, many pokemon that you THINK are only based on animals (or nothing at all) are heavily based on myths and legends, many of which are unrecognizable to use because they're japanese. Take wartortle, he's a Minogame http://www.hanakagoantiques.com/items/189255/en1store.html

I only knew about a few of those. Like that Arcanine is a shisa and Espeon is based on some kind of demon-cat with two tails.
