so, what does /an/ think of dog shows?

ie: do any of y'all compete(if so, some advice for someone who one day hopes to get into confirmation shows), what about agility shows, ect.

I don't know about dog shows, but beagles are awesome

There's a lot of bullshit involved with breeding for confirmation. Breed standards often involve promoting unhealthy traits/inefficient traits (eg. curled tails on huskies) and dog shows have created award-winning breeders that will breed for standards regardless of passing along congenital defects (hip dysplasia, for example).

Add the drama of any sort of beauty competition, and lots of money, and you have yourself conformation breeding. Whoo. Prepare yourself for a lot of elitism, a lot of assholes, and a lot of hard ass work.

Yeah, this is why I hate show breeders. So many fuckers that don't give a damn about the dog being a living thing.

I've had a dog die on me because this champion breeder firstly lied as to the healthiness of the dog, and of its parents, and to the reason why she sold the dog.

It was unfit for competition, so she just ditched the dog and jewed me out of $2500, which could never change the fact that it was a good, cheerful dog. I had never had problems with hip dysplasia in a dog, nor did I ever have a veterinarian misdiagnose a dog with mange (on account of the hair loss) when the dog was clearly in a fuck ton of pain, i.e. not mange as the three different vets said before I found one that diagnosed the dog with something called Von Willbrand's (spelling?).

Bitch never returned my calls. The breeder, not the dog. I'm still pretty shaken up by it all.

Of course, if you had signed any contract papers saying that she tested the dog (and you did look at the results from the parents, right?), you could have easily taken that to small claims court and gotten your money back

Also, are you sure it was von Willebrand's? You know, since that's a clotting disorder and has little to do with coat?

I fucking hate that dog show pose. Does it serve some purpose, other than faggotry?

Oh yeah, I have the papers. They are decent enough evidence, but not perfect. The parents were not confirmed to have VW.

She's just not in the state. She disappeared and I can't contact her.

And yes, it was VW. The tests that the vet took, and that I was able to get documentation of, confirmed it. They also confirmed that the dog had some other congenital problem.

I think it was called BMW. I think it was something to do with GM syndrome.
