I've been considering getting a pet hedgehog for quite some time now. I learned a bit on things such as basic care and other important things. However, does anyone here have some personal experiences with hedgehogs? What are they like as pets? Do they start acting old quickly as they get older?

Drunk hedgehogs are dangerous. You're lucky to be alive.

Hedgehogs are cute and all but they aren't that great of pets. They aren't that social, you can't really pet them, and they are very sensitive to sounds so if someone does something as quiet as turning on a light (no joke) it will spook and probably poke you. I'd suggest a rat or ferret instead.

Pet hedgehogs are an African variety that are a lot cleaner and nicer than the English ones.

I know speed is their game.

What are they like as pets?

They don't like to be cage, after all its his world.

Do they start acting old quickly as they get older?

No, they remain childish and fun loving even into their 20's.

They have blue hair, so they fight for their friends. They also talk more as they grow older. Clearly you have never owned a hedgehog.

Hedgehogs are great pets! They are very smart and intensely loyal. Watch you though because they need regular exercise, and if they catch an interesting scent they'll follow it for miles.

i once found a family of hedgehogs in my backyard, the mother was dead and all of the babys except two. (They had eaten those slug pellets which my neighbors use)
I fed them warm milk with a dripper, but sadly one died overnight. the other regained strength, and i kept it in a covered draw (filled with newspaper and straw) in a warm room. I bought some special milk, for raising kittens. I had rung up the SPCA and a vet clinic, and they said that would be fine. I bought it up and eventually took it out to the country and set it free in some bushes. (I had made sure it would be able to fend for itself). Depends if you buy it young or fully grown or what. When mine was fully grown it was awesome. I let it roam a bit of bush in my backyard (which i had fenced off) and it enjoyed that. You have to make sure you feed it regularly, so that it doesn't run away looking for food.
