if you walk around with an open can of sardines, the smell is really strong, and any hungry animal will become interested. I guess you might be concerned about other, unfriendly wildlife, but I've heard of people recovering lost dogs in this way.

Heh. She wouldn't be looking for cock then.
She could be unhappy/lonely/hungry and feel that she has no true home/family. Then again, she could be the kind of breed that is overly independent
Call neighbors and people you know. Drive around shouting her name, you can do this when there are no people around if you're embarrassed. Make sure someone stays at home to catch/praise her, calling out at times.

Your dog's dead, probably whilst lonely and scared and wishing you were there for her.

She's dead and it's all your fault.

A few hours ago? And you already put up flyers? I'm so confused.

If she's wandered before, she's probably just wandered farther out. Out in the middle of nowhere it's unlikely she was picked up by animal control, maybe she wandered to somebody's house with another dog and is hanging out. Just ask around and be patient, but check the ditches as well (if your dog was hit by a car, which is sad but very possible, sometimes the body is not so apparent just looking from the street).
