Personally, I cope with things by just moving on. Lots of people like to wallow in the past, reminisce on things lost, and regret things they did or didn't do-- that doesn't help. It just postpones recovery. It doesn't mean you care less if you choose to not let it ruin your week. Be sad about it if you have to get it out, but don't feel obligated to be sad because it honors their memory or whatever. Be happy about what you learned from the dog/experience and apply it to the future. If the dog's death was due to something preventable, take that as a lesson, too. Angsting over loss doesn't do anything. Choosing to use what you've experienced from it does. Alternatively, cry to your livejournal, get a cheesy thousand dollar pet funeral, and wibble over its lifeless urn for the next five years.
