Beta Playground? Anonymous
So, I got's me a beta for xmas. I want to make a hamster-like environment with tubes, several takes, and shit all filled with water so it can travel around and over my desk and do cool things.

Any recommendations on how to do this?

I was thinking of using all clear plastic containers that I can use my Dremel tool with and attaching 2-3 inch clear plastic tubes to them and using ultra clear silicone to seal them up.

bettas are lazy fish except when they see other bettas. you can build all that, but it's not likely to do much.

Don't do it.

-bettas need to reach the surface every so often to get air. enjoy your betta only spending time in 1 place.
-that looks like it's going to be a bitch to clean, and it will get dirty.
-It most likely won't be fun for him, and will probably freak out when it's in the tubes.
- with tubes you are decreasing the surface area compared to the amount of water, and you need good gas exchange.
-doesn't look like you'll be able to stuck a filter on it.

Seriously, it jsut sounds like a waste of time. do it a avour and get it a sizable regular tank, and plants and stuff, and if that's it in the pic there, get it the hell out of that betta vase, or at the very least take the plant on top off so it can get some air.

SPOILERS: Betas are tropical fish and need water temp that is 80F. If the water is less than that or falls below 75F the fish becomes very "listless" and lethargic.

If you put them in an aquarium larger than 2.5 gallons with a heater that maintains a constant 80F those little bastards act like they are in the Olympics.

SPOILERS: you're supposed to use a water filter for fish tanks.

Do you people keep betas in tiny little jars of water and never change the water or something? I hope sharks eat you all.

It's a 3 gallon vase. There's plenty of air flow around the plant and the water level is low enough for the fish to gulp air.

Horrible idea. Do not do it.
Also please get rid of that plant at the top.

My betta lives in a 60 gal community tank
and yeah, I use a 'water filter'. Nowhere in my post did I say to use any other kind.

So yeah, go fuck yourself.

Betas are hardy fish, either he will use it, or he won't. Keep each container open topped, with a filter in each one, and if he only hangs out in one of them then get some fish for the other tanks and see if they swim around.
