I'm requesting your help /an/
My cat has been getting skinnier and skinnier over the last couple weeks, regardless of how much he's been eating. And unfortunately today, he passed away.
As if this weren't bad enough, my other cat has had a complete loss of appetite for the last couple days.
My family thinks the first cat died from Feline Leukemia, which means my other cat could also be infected.
My family is in a bit of an economic hole right now, so we can't really afford to take him to a vet.
What do I do?

There's nothing you can do, even under vet care. If it is FeLV, your cat will die, just like if you had AIDS.

Avoid raw meats, eggs, etc. Treat the cat like you would a person with AIDS. Don't let your cat outside, feed a premium kibble or wet food (or combo), and just keep an eye on him.

I'm sorry to hear about your cat anon, I just lost mine a few weeks ago. Hopefully it is not FeLV, there are a number of other problems that could cause a cat to rapidly lose weight like that.

I would just suggest trying to get your other cat to eat, maybe try a different food. Another cat of mine had stopped eating dry food and lost too much weight, but gained a lot back when we switched him to wet food and is doing fine now. Good luck, I hope your kitty is ok.

My cat lived eleven years with feline leukemia. This is without any treatment. His brother died quickly, which was depressing. When my cat did start deteriorating from it, though, it was so hard to watch. It started slow - just a little bit of weight loss. Then he just completely lost control of everything, and wouldn't move.

That day was one of the single most saddest days of my life. I was crying so hard when my mother was putting him in the carrier to the vet that I forgot to even say goodbye.

:/ I miss Borden.

OP again
I'm hoping that he only died from old age, as he was somewhere around 17 or 18 years old (had him since I can remember.)
All the noticable stuff happened within the last month, as with the other cat. My family just moved into a new house around 4-5 months ago, and he was an outdoor cat, so guessing it's something he got in the area.
Is there any way to know how long my second cat has to live without knowing how long he's been sick? (If)

For fuck sakes, it's a goddamn cat. Just take it outside and hit the stupid thing with a rock.

You're mean.

Feline Leukemia is one of the less painful ways a cat can die. Make it comfortable and love on it alot. The easiset thing to do is to let it take its course then put it to sleep after a couple weeks.

What you do is build a time machine, go back in time, and tell yourself to get a fucking job and get your cats vaccinated against preventable deadly diseases liks feline leukemia.

Your cat may or may not have FL - it's not for sure. Keep him indoors - so he doesn't inflect other cats, and so he doesn't get another infection himself. Keep an eye out for anemia, which sounds like what your other cat died from.

If he does have FL, just try to make him comfortable. Like Anon said, all cats die, and this isn't a particularly bad way to go. If he appears to be in pain, or too weak to take care of himself, have him put to sleep. It's not expensive, and it is the kindest thing you can do.

Good luck.

agree with both posters. If you're not going to take him to the vet or any other cats you have there is no chance you will know what is going on with them. There are so many different things that can cause those symptoms and if he isn't going to a vet the only solution is to make the guy comfortable before he slips away to kitty heaven.

Also call different vets in your area and ask about pricing options. If you have a sick cat or think you have a sick cat a kind vet may give you a break.
