Hi /an/.

I live in California right now but I'm moving to Oklahoma in the next couple weeks. Once I get there I really really really fucking want a ferret. Do any of you own ferrets? How are they as pets? Advice and such would be nice.

They are AWESOME pets. They sleep for 14 hours a day or more, but when they are active, they are hilarious. I recommend getting a pair, because they tend to get lonely and inactive alone. Clean their cage often, and bathe them regularly. Not too much, like every day, though. Because then their glands kick into overdrive and they stink BAD.

hm.... bathing them often is BAD i have three, and i bath them every 3 months or so, also i hope you keep an extra grand or so in a special bank account or credit card just for them becouse they can get sick easily and its not like a dog were you can take your time w/ them and hope the diarrhea or whatever gets better becouse even a cold for them can be VERY serious. they have serious illnesses that they can commonly get like Adrenal, lymphoma, and Insulinoma just to name a few. they need shots yearly and they seem to get the flew yearly (at least mine do) they need a lot of stimulation so>>285876even tho they sleep quite a few hours a day its NEVER that many i have to give my three AT LEAST 4 hours of out of cage time a day... and thats bare minimum. they need lots of toys and love and play time. think long and hard about getting a furbaby they are a lot of work but worth it if you know what your getting into. get the ferrets for dummy's book its a grate source of knowledge and also check out maff, http://www.maferrets.org/forums/index.php they give A LOT of good advice. good luck

I have alway grown up with ferrets. We give ours a bath every couple months but you can't do it in the winter so much because they will catch a cold. And yes there cage needs to be cleaned a lot. And they need a ton of interaction or they will get angsty.

And though a few of ours got sick. Not every single one. And most of the time after we brought them to the vet they were on medicine and nothing else really after that. And all our live longer then the expected age.

I' actually thinking about taking the two pair from my mom they are older now but the sweetest little boys ever. And my friend is taking the three girls.

Yeah, I give my fuzzies a bath once a month, but I keep a deodorant spray to give them once in awhile.

Make sure you give them lots of space to play outside the cage, but at the same time make sure to seal up areas you don't want them to go. remember, If they can stick their head in it, chances are they can squeeze inside.
And make sure you spend a lot of time playing with them. They sleep a lot but if you see them pacing around in the cage chances are they want to play. With two you can watch them fight, it's really fun.

Pic related, its one of my two slinkies.
