I just picked up this kitten two days ago. She was very starved(I could feel her bones pretty clearly), and she seems to have a cold.

She was outside and stray, but she seems very affectionate to humans so she may have been lost or thrown out instead of born stray.

I've been feeding her canned fish-based catfood and water, is there anything specifically better for a sick/malnourished cat?

btw, she's eaten about 1 can, ~150g in two days.

Feed it kitten food-- higher in protein/etc for growing cats. Should help put some weight back on.

Best advice would be (obviously) to get her into the vet. They can best assess her dietary needs, and it'll be a good idea to get bloodwork/start vaccinations if you plan on keeping the cat.

meat-based catfood is better than fishbased, and the higher the meat content the better. However, for a sick/malnourished cat, their stomach won't be able to handle much rich food all at once, so feeding them a little bit at a time is best.

I'm glad that someone out there has a heart to adopt a stray, so kudos to you, OP.

If she's low on vitamins and/or minerals, the vet might be able to give them as an injection. Also, it should be checked for parasites just to be sure.

Feed her some sachets. When I picked up my cat, I tried to feed her canned food, but she didn't really want to eat it. Then I switched to sachets through the recommendation of my friend and my cat started eating a lot more.

OP here.

Oh, I should have mentioned I'm in Japan. They seem to have the major companies from the states (Hills, Purina, Whiskas, Sheba).

The store was about to close, so I went and bought some stuff.

From L to R - Powedered kitten milk, Aixia Tuna and Bonito(What I've fed it the last two days), Hills Science Diet for Kittens Turkey, and Whiskas Kalkan for Kittens Tuna with Red Snapper.

Honestly, any big name brand of kitten food will be fine. /r/ moar pics of kitteh and less of moonspeek cans.
I think you should have it checked by a vet. I know thats what everyone on this board says in response to every other post, but in this case, I think it's the right thing to do, you don't know if kitteh has had any shots, or any other attention or checks that would be routine for a kitten to have after birth. Cold like symptoms in a kitten could be a sign of something serious.

ok, here are some moar pics. I'm not god at estimating age, but she's definitely under 12 months.

Oh, that's her temporary litterbox in the background, she does use it.

I think what you got yourself there is a good old case of abandoned kitten.
Hope it works out for you.

Yeah, if she uses the box then she's without a doubt abandoned or a runaway. I'd actually lean towards runaway, seeing as how her previous owners went through the trouble to box train her.

Still, she's quite cute. Good luck to you.

Does anyone know if it'll be okay to feed it the powdered kitten milk?

Should be fine. Just add the amount of water specified on the packet, and make sure it's lukewarm.
