Hairless breeds of cats and dogs are, indeed, WORSE on allergies. That is because you are allergic to protein compounds in the skin residue and dried saliva, NOT hair, which is mostly just harmless keratin. A hairless animal does not have the fur to trap some of that particulate to keep it form getting all over you, so you have a worse reaction. This is also why poodle fur tends to prompt less of a reaction. The fact that the curly coat traps in more shed hair (yes, they do shed, it just doesn't leave the coat) means that it also traps more skin residue and dried saliva.
