Yeah, I adopted, but technically I paid about 260 to get everything squared away. Fucking humane society.

All my cats have been barn cats, so I've never adopted before, but I'm currently thinking about adopting a dog. Does it seriously cost that much money every time? I can pay for vet bills and whatnot, but 260 sounds fucking insane for adoption.

Adoption fees are going to vary quite a bit between adoption agencies. It's also going to depend on what's been done to the dog.

Alright, I guess I'll just check out some of the local shelters then.

OP what kind of dog did you get? I'm thinking of getting a husky, those bitches are fucking awesome.

$260 for a dog that's vaccinated, spay/neutered, and fed?

Uh, good deal.

It's a lab/ Australian shepherd/ pit bull/ boxer mix.

Cute-ass mutt. Really spotty, with blacks and greys and whites.

OP here-- if you go to the pound, it's generally cheaper. These are run by the government, so they don't worry about money.

$260 is typically not bad.

$260 isn't bad at all. My family adopted through a private foster home network thingy. Their adoption fee was $400 which included neuter, shots, microchip, and a $100 off cupon to the vet that the group worked with. That's pretty high for an adoption fee, but purebreds around here usually start around $800.
