/an/, I need your advice. My dog Bonnie hasn't eaten her breakfast today, which is unheard of. Yesterday she had very liquid, yellowish diarrhoea. Today it seems to be just rather wet and sloppy... She's drinking a whole lot of water, wizzing normally, and seems a bit sooky.

I know that she's gotten into a packet of spicy beef jerky my moronic housemate left on the floor. This could well be the problem, but do these symptoms sound like something a few days of boiled chicken and rice won't fix? She's 14 years old now and I don't like seeing her in distress T_T Anybody had a dog with similar problems?

Also, just got an email from my fiance that sheds more light on the matter:

"Bonnie was getting into the rubbish when I went out there this morning. She ate all the rubbish-nachos and some other stuff that was in the bag o garbage, so if she's got an upset tummy that could be a contributing factor..."

Onions are in salsa -_- Good lawd. Hope she didn't eat anything that can cause intestinal blockage...

Go to the vet.

I wouldn't take the risk of waiting a few days with an older dog.

Google tells me that she'd have to have eaten a significant amount of onion for it to be toxic

Hi. I know the feeling of wanting to see first, or trying to fix a problem yourself when it comes to the health of your pet. But while dogs occasionally get an upset stomach that, as you say, can be fixed with a chicken and rice diet, in this case I am worried about her age and the onions. Many people don't know that onions are poisonous for dogs; a chemical destroys their blood cells and I have even seen a fukkin cook book for dogs that was full of recipes which included onions. You should worry less about intestinal blockage and more about bacteria or onion poisoning. Dogs can process (destroy) the bacteria in rotten meat - however the bacteria found in cooked rotten meat is pure poison. Dogs were never made to process these bacteria and especially since she is older, she may really need assistance from a vet. I suggest you go to more than one vet and let this be a lesson to your fiancé to always be careful. :(

Yeah, I think you're right, Anon. Really, there's no harm in looking like an idiot if it means staying safe about her health. I guess I was just after some opinions... worry-wart that I am! I've got a vet appointment in four hours. Shall let you all know what happens!

Back from the vet's with some antibiotics and advice to not feed her for the next 24 hours, then start feeding her chicken and rice like I thought. It's good to know she doesn't have a temperature and her heart's fine, and he was of the opinion that yes, it was a stomach upset. Huzzah!

Is 143419.
I'm happy for you two. You have a sweet old doggie! Reminds me of one of my older girls too.
I forgot to add - Always use brown rice as it is healthier for you and your doggie! For extra flavour, you can throw the diced chicken breast into the boiling rice. Good luck for the future.
