Huh, my friend just sent me this.

http://www.celsias.com/2007/02/27/bees-dying-by-the-millions/

Apparently awhile back there was a massive bee death increase. Some of the articles say it might be global warming, some say it was something to do with cellphone waves (what), But the explanation here made the most sense:

Huh, that would suck if bees went extinct. They help lotsa plants grow and whatnot. Sounds like something that could have a domino effect.

Yeah I think Einstein worked out with SCIENCE that if the bees went extinct we'd all die in about five years.

I know where all the bees are. They're hanging out at parking lots getting into discarded soda cans and shit left by pigs. I swear I haven't had to use Raid this much before.

The virus, called Israeli acute paralysis, may have been brought into the United States in bees imported from Australia. That importation was first permitted in 2004, about the same time that the new disease - called Colony Collapse Disorder, or CCD - began appearing in the United States.

Australian bees do not suffer from CCD, leading researchers to speculate that the virus acts synergistically with chemicals in the environment or with another infectious agent, such as the varroa mite, which is not common in Australia.

SPOILERS: Honeybees are not native to North America. If they all disappeared we would definitely have problems with some crops that require forced pollination, like almonds, but most plant life would still be pollinated by local species as it always has been. They think that trucking the bees across the country for this forced pollination is another reason contributing to colony collapse. Beekeepers apparently make more money renting bees to farms than they do from collecting honey.

and Paul Ehrlich predicted we'd all be dead by the 80s due to overpopulation. The world's a complex thing and very difficult to model.
