This is my Doberman, he is energetic and loves to play, but for some reason people are scared of him...

You are now seeing this when you shut your eyes.

We had his ears cropped, his tail was already docked when we got him.

Anyone else have dobies? This is my second one after my first one died of old age. They are just too awesome, they're loyal, loving, and fun. Have another picture of my dog in serious mode

What a cutie. :B But, I've never understood the appeal of tail and ear chopping.

Not sure about the tails, but Dobies actually have weak ear muscles and cropping them is beneficial.

Plus it looks great. I don't see it as a big deal. It's a little annoying when people flip out about it as if the dog gives a shit.

Your dog is beautiful, OP.

Why do people flip out over cropped ears? The procedure is miniscule for the amount people bitch about it. It's a lot less invasive than, say, spaying, but no one calls that cruelty. I have a friend who shows boxers and dobes, and I've met many of the pups she works with post-crop with their ears taped up. None of them have ever shown any signs of pain or distress whatsoever.

Ah, the more you know.

As for tails, some dogs get their tails cropped if they go inside a lot. The constant wagging of their tails leads them to whacking stuff... which leads to bruising... and sometimes rupturing of the skin, broken tails, etc. So it's usually beneficial to get tails cut, as brutal as it sounds...

This may be a dumb question, but why don't all dogs suffer from this? All the dogs I've met were tail-waggers regardless of breed.

I've seen that image months ago. You're full of shit.

I've posted it before. But it often goes under the radar. I have a lot more from that same night if you need more proof!

Thank you. I get many compliments on the street when i walk him, but a majority of the time people jump out of the way when they are coming in his direction.

some dogs, particularily large breeds like Great Danes, have much larger, heavier tails with bigger muscles and more momentum in the swing, unfortunately bones can only be so dense. The combination of a repeated impulse force against a hard object and the tendency of the tail to curl and thus concentrate the impact to a small area creates a high risk for injury in perpetual tight quarters.

That said, if your dog can't even wag its tail in your house without smashing things, your dog is too big for your house.
