There is a small bird flying in my house right now. I haven't the slightest clue as to how it could have gotten in. It's trying to escape but it keeps flying between all these screened, high-up windows and I can't open any of them. I opened some other windows, but it doesn't seem to be taking a hint, AND my cat keeps trying to jump out of the windows I'm opening. I'm not about to let my cat fall two stories... it's not even supposed to go outside anyways.
How am I supposed to get this bird out?

One thing to understand is that birds will almost always go UP to flee - even if they can find no escape there. A panicked bird will probably not be able to figure out that it needs to go downward in order to get away.

One thing you could do is stand very still (so you don't spook it away) on a ladder under a corner and have someone else chase the bird into that corner, then grab it. You might want to use a makeshift net to grab it (sheets, old shirt, tote bucket, etc.,).

Another thing to understand is that most birds can't see jack in the dark. Chase it into a room with nothing on the ceiling to perch on (like a chandelier) and then turn out the lights - unless it's one of the none-to-common nocturnal species, it should go dormant in a few minutes. Go in with a dim flashlight, find it, and just take it outside.

Or just wait for the cats to get it.
