Pet insurance in the US? Anonymous
One of my cats has cost me over 2k easily this year in medical bills and it is really hurting me financially. While we've found out what was ailing him I still don't want to continue putting down 2-3k a year on medical bills for the three of them if I could possibly get insurance for them.

One (the sadly sick one) has asthma and requires Flovent. The other two are perfectly healthy.

Do any of you have experience with pet insurance with the US?
any to avoid?

He isn't in a lot of pain though. He's just a cat with asthma.

He's just a cat worth 3k a year.

Not another cat like him in any shelter. No sir.

Can he live without an meds? If not, then good luck Anon. I've never heard of pet insurance before.

If you do get insurance, it almost certainly won't cover any existing conditions you knew about before you got it, such as the Flovent thing.

I hear cat insurance is a bigger scam than human insurance.

Put money aside for upcoming medical expenses.

I did some research on pet insurance after one of my kittens put a sizable dent in my wallet. He's gone now, but my other two are covered at ~$100/yr with decent coinsurance and lifetime maximums. You should contact your state's insurance department if you're curious about which ones to avoid. I haven't had to use mine yet, but it's Pet Plan and was highly regarded on the web.

Thanks man. I'm going to see if I can get the inhaler prescription written in my name since I have insurance and respiratory problems as well.

Becareful! Cats can't take the same meds as people most of the time.
You'll want to do some research before you give your cat any human medication.

It's the prescription I got from the vet, from what I've looked up it is one of the few conditions that has common cross species medication.

It might be the same medication but is it the same dosage? That's very important.

If that pic is of your cat, don't worry about your vet bills....his collar is so tight he'll be dead soon anyway!!!!

One of our cats growing up would have asthma attacks every once in a while. The first time it happened, my mom called our vet friend and she said to just hold an inhaler close to his face and just kind of cup it so he'd have to breathe some in. Even though a cats dosage wouldn't be the same as a humans, I'm not sure it really matters since the cat won't breathe in the entire puff anyway.
