my dog is sick. Anonymous
I need your help, guys.
it all started about a week ago. I have a cocker spaniel, he is the kind of dog that gets really excited when you arrive home, while he was greeting my mom he fell on his back and twisted his left back leg, he had never screamed like that so we could tell it was painful.
we immediately took him to the vet who injected him three times and told us to buy him human's medicine for the inflamation. after giving him the medicine for 2 days and a half we realized his heces were really dark so we decided to get a second opinion, the other vet told us that the medicine we gave him was too strong and damaged his digestive system.
now we are taking him to get injected daily, and his legs seems to be better, but he has barely eaten in a week and constantly vomits if he drinks too much water. I'm worried because he has lost weight and is very weak.
how can i get him to eat?

What kind of vet would recommend giving human inflammation meds? Most of them are completely unsuitable for dogs and cats. I have many stories of criminal vets who either make dogs sick so they can keep treating them, or string the customer along with lies about the dogs needing operations/meds that they really don't. Don't get me started on incompetent vets - I was going on about them long before I became a tripfag.
Inflammation meds are actually quite dangerous if not the correct type and dose.
You should try many different foods and spoil your dog with love and attention. He is feeling truly awful right now. There are also psychological tricks you can use. I will list everything that comes to mind and I suggest you try it all:
Firstly, since he has digestive problems, I suggest you buy skinless chicken breast fillets, cube them and simmer them in brown rice, until the rice is soft. You can add premium beef mince for flavour if necessary. When the rice is ready, you can pull apart the cubes with 2 forks and work them into the rice. Try a small amount of 40% chicken 60% rice. You can try adding good quality cat food for flavour, such as beef, chicken or turkey type. Buy some gloves and smear the cat food on your hand and push a little on his gums - this may wet his appetite. Premium raw beef mince on its own is also good to enrich his food, but not okay as a staple diet.
If he shows no interest in food still, try acting as if you were feeding a fussy baby - take the food away and pretend to eat it, make "ooohhhh, yum yum yum" noises, etc...

None of this will help if he is not getting proper treatment or medicine to help heal his medical problem though. You were vague about what his problem is and what meds he received. Ask your vet about getting METAMIDE for his stomach and possibly PREVICOX for his pain and inflammation. Although that medicine might cause further stomach upsets, so he might need regular pain injections, because strong pain will destroy his appetite and could in the end kill him before he had a chance to heal due to malnutrition/dehydration.
You could try going to a more senior vet elsewhere as well.
Don't forget to add any updates, as I like to see if my posts actually make any difference.
