found a kitten Anonymous
So I got a kitten today; found him on the highway actually.

He's pretty mellow, relaxed, probably about six-eight weeks old. He eats hard food, etc etc.

Problem is my wife's other two cats. All they've done is spy on her from range and hiss/growl. Thing is, both my wife's cats are female, this being male, I know I need to get him fixed, just not sure when. I think I have a few months.

So far everything is peachy, I just wish the other two cats would mellow out and stop growling constantly.

You need to get him fixed at around 5-6 months. Be SURE to go to the vet and get his shots, though. You don't want him catching anything or giving something to your other cats. A good way for your other cats to accept the new kitten is for the new kitten to smell like you. If you use a certain kind of cologne or deodorant everyday, or your wife does, then rub some on your hands and then snuggle with the kitten and pet him a lot. This will make him smell more like your wife, and therefore the other cats will think, "hm...well this smells familiar so maybe it isn't so bad."

Thanks for the advice,
I'll give it a try.

cats can be fixed at 8 weeks.. but it's generally good to wait until they are 3 months old.

Your momma is so fat you got into harvard

Yes, normal behavior. They see this new arrival as some new creature invading their established territory. It weirds them out because they don't really like change. They'll get used to him eventually. Heck, it's even okay if they scuffle a little. Just make sure you watch when they do to be sure the older cats aren't being too serious about it and hurting the kitten.

You need to keep him quarantined in the bathroom for at least two weeks while you have him inspected by a vet. He could have any number of diseases or problems that can harm or kill your other cats.

Another benefit is that the cats will get to know each other through the safety of the crack under the door, rather than face to face. This is a much gentler introduction between cats and has really positive long term effects.

This thread is now about giving the OP names for his cat;

Shade is my suggestion.

I took him to the vet; got the work up; she gave him a clean bill of health.

She said he seemed pretty well adjusted, didn't mind being handled.

He's pretty mellow, just really follows me or my wife around and sleeps next to one of us constantly.

Still no name :\

Might call him Dude, cause he's so chill.

Dude? Mellow?

Take your pick. I'm a Bill S. Preston man myself, but there's nothing wrong with calling him Theodore Logan either.

You're back! Oh how I miss your witty trolling. The other tripfags cannot compare.

Shelters usually wait until they are atleast 3 lbs or something like that. You can contact one and ask them when they fix their kittens they get in, or call a vet.

Um, why weren't your girlfriend's cats spayed already?

She sounds like a fucking dolt.

not OP, but if you own two female cats, and if they are indoor cats, there's really no need to spend the money on spaying them.

but if they're outdoor cats, it's pretty dumb. though I'm not sure he ever said they were not spayed.
