Red Velvet Ants Anonymous
So, we get alot of these crazy bastards around here. It's fucked up. Unless you step on them on very solid ground, they spring back up, unharmed. It took my three stomps with a boot to kill one on concrete. They may look cool but they are painful fucking biters.

Also, this is now a nifty insect thread.

Whoo! I'm glad these aren't anywhere near me. I'd hate to have those in my house. =/

Velvet ants are actually several species of wingless wasps. They sting rather than biting, but from what I read it IS a painful sting.

So painful it is nicknamed the cowkiller ant in some places.

I misclicked Animals $ Nature when I was about to head to /b/, but I rather like this board. It's quite...interesting. o_o;

All I can think of is: Velvet Ant Holocaust.
Famine burned easily, how about some velvet ants?!
>> Anonymous
Yes they are IMPOSSIBLE to kill.

And I've stepped on them barefoot. Jesus. Christ. THE PAIN.

WHY did you step on them barefoot? Are you male or something?

Yes, I terribly wanted to show it my male anonymous superiority

I'm pretty sure their little body hairs have a form of cyanide in them like that of the wood asp caterpillars. We get these in our pool all the time, and we have to fish them out with a skimmer or leaves. If we touch them with our bare hands, they'll burn the crap out of us with their hairs or sting us with their stinger.
