Anyone else think a dragon would be the best pet ever?
>> Anonymous
yes. i think it would be awesome.
>> Anonymous
Only the kind that are exactly like we want them to be in every way and can never ever be bad or have bad things about them.

Amirite?

I'd imagine a pet dragon as something that's a lot like a Cat that still has its claws... that can fly... and breaths fire

No - I WANT to raise a killer dragon with a taste for blood.... :(
>> Anonymous
If you raised from a beby it probably wouldn't kill you. Probably.

Why do all the cool animals not exist :(

A dragon as a 'pet' would be much as a cat as a 'pet'.
You can feed them, house them, love them, play with them, care for them, but the choice is ultimetly theirs as to when, and even if, they will accept what you offer.
They will decide for their own reasons to come and go as they please, see other creatures, (or hunt them), drag the kill into the bedroom while you sleep, and wonder at your rejection of their providing for the pride.
Never believe you will be above being clawed, bitten, or scent marked as THEIR pet.

Depends if the dragon can get women.
>> Anonymous
>>258147
Or virgins.
/v/'s a good place to start looking
>> Anonymous
Well I think the idea would be kick ass. But food and gigantic piles of treasure for them to sleep on might cost a bit.
>> Anonymous
>>258266
I would think they would accrue their own treasure. Just let them out in the morning and when evening rolls around they'll scratch at the door wanting back in. Open the door and the come in dragging the treasure and take it to their nest. Problems include the original owners coming to look for their stuff, (Pro Tip: Dragons are the solution to that) authorities coming with theft and arson charges. (Best let the dragons handle that one too), and the dragons won't share. Though if you train them to share, you can have one productive game of fetch.

Most anons already have a cat (or several), so they would be used to this.

LOL. That's about right, though.

Still, it'd be cool. I mean, who wouldn't want a pet that could lead you through dungeons, drag home treasure (and the occassional charred knight), defend your home, and take you on awesome quests of finding princesses, crystals, magical items, or wtf ever.

*sigh* As so, too, are my dreams of being a professional monster slayer for cash and items...

Yeah, I know the pic ain't a dragon, but Gigan's still pretty damn cool too...and giant monsters are about the equivilant of dragons in Japan, I guess.

Yes... and OP read my mind, I was considdering starting a thread on this subject.

A small-ish sized one would probably act more like a mix between iguana, ferret, and a cat, if you rule out the flying part. Also, I think It would depend on type/size of dragon, what region it's from.

Also, it's not really just any ol' treasure they're searching for. The most heat conductive metal is Gold, as well as one of the softer ones, providing that dragons are indeed cold blooded, and require warmer temperatures to sleep/digest their meals. So, perhaps if you omit that need to acquire gold for a bedding, and substitute it with a Heating pad, heating lamp, and a wool/lamb skin bedding, it wouldn't need to attain gold. (If we're considdering a small to medium sized dragon.)

Everybody in this thread is assuming dragons aren't more intelligent than humans and can't use magic.

Well if we took that into consideration, then most likely we'd end up being the dragons pet/servant of some kind. Or if the various stories are anything to go by these days the slight possibility of them becoming partners and such. Then again, if they do act like cats that won't be too much different from the two former I suppose.

Most likely though they'd consider us an inferior species and just use us as snacks. Kinda depressing really.

You shouldn't listen to minstrels' tales, lad. A dragon would never hurt a soul... unless they tried to hurt him first.

Gigan's more of a chicken than a dragon.

But if you want an easily-controlled giant dragon, you could always go find a King Ghidorah. Seems like any two-bit alien with a tape player can control him.

Bad news for you. Prismatic dragons are usually Chaotic or Lawful Evil. Get a Metallic dragon instead.

Not necessarily, it's been recorded that crystal dragons, D&D monsters manual 2 only, have been known to kidnap white dragon eggs and raise the hatchlings as their own, nurturing a somewhat good/neutral animal in place of an evil upbringing. However, if we get technical, the White species are more animalistic than their other kin, which is why even the occasional Frost Giant can make a guard/pet out of one. Unfortunately, they do better in cold environments, so if don't live in either northern canada, or some ungodly cold climate, they'd probably die.

Red dragons, however, you'd be way out of luck, as they're pretty much set in their ways, even as a wyrmling.

If you wanna get a challenge, go for the Wyvern, since they can be brought up in most countries, but prefer cliff faces and plenty of room, and have the intelligence of a mildly retarded human. Otherwise, stick with psudo-dragons, or a Brass or Copper dragon, raised as a wyrmling. They would, as they are pretty intelligent, make for a better conversation companion, and steed.

dont forget some "white" dragons are actually albino metallic dragons, you wouldnt want to make the same mistake as that solamnic knight
>> Demyx's Landmaster !!vjyCRKGc15d
>>258769
Unless you want to have your ear talked off, forget about a Brass dragon, you'd never get the damn thing to shut up. I'd go for a Copper dragon, they're chaotic good and love jokes, pranks and other forms of humor and wit.

Okay now you all have gotten me curious about D&D dragons. Would you be kind enough to tell this anon about said dragons, or point it to a good source of info on the internet? Please?
>> Demyx's Landmaster !!vjyCRKGc15d
>>258797
If you look for the D&D book "The Draconomicon", it'll have detailed info on the ten true dragons (Chromatic - Black, Blue, Green, Red, White; Metallic - Brass, Bronze, Copper, Gold, Silver), dragon abilities, spells, prestige classes, playing as a dragon, playing with a dragon cohort/mount/familiar, a bunch of new and old dragon species more fully covered in this book, just a ton of cool stuff.
