damn kitten has fleas

this may be a horrendously terrible idea or an idea of a pure genius but, what are the ramifications of shaving my cat bald?

Do it.

For the lulz, you understand.

I don't really know.. but I suppose you will have to keep it indoors so kitty won't be harm with the heat/cold/injuries

oh and kitty will look ugly and hate you forever :( you should better take it to the vet or give kitty a bath with an anti flea product

shave it

Giving the cat a bath will cause the cat to hate you just as much as shaving the cat, and shaving the cat is funnier.

cats have very thin loose skin, have fun ripping your cat open.

there are better ways to get rid of fleas...

Bunch of Anon-holes...

shaving won't harm your cat, unless you live in cold climes and/or it's an outdoor cat. Most long-haired cats will like the relief from heat during summer, plus it helps with not having to groom them. I do remember one /an/on who said that his/her other cats didn't recognise his freshly shaved cat when it came home from the cat groomer.

Dunno what'll do about fleas though.

my cat had fleas once when she was a kitten and i got rid of them in one day.. same with my dog.

all you have to do is give them a flea bath. use flea shampoo and lather from the tip of their tail slowly up to the top of their necks so just their head is left unshampoo'd. all the fleas that managed to escape the soap will be crawling around their face, so just crush them all with a pair of tweezers.. take your time and make sure you get them all.
do this 2 or 3 times in the same day.

once the bath is done, let your pet dry, then lightly spray them with flea spray to keep any fleas that might be in the house from jumping back on them.

done!

it's me again. i forgot to say that you DO NOT spray them in between the baths. just do it once when all the bathing is finished.

If you plan on getting your cat shaved, please DO NOT do it yourself. Unless you have had grooming experience, razor burn and nicks are too easy to inflict on your cat. And shaving any part of yourself does NOT count as grooming experience.

If you really want your cat shaved, your local grooming salon can probably do it. But, in that case, they can also probably do a flea and tick bath for you, if you're feeling a little uncomfortable doing it yourself.

And if you're really a do-it-yourself kind of person, a local pet-store or general store (like Wal-mart or target) should sell flea/tick shampoo, which, if you follow the instructions carefully, should be safe and fully get rid of your flea issue.

You should also watch your cat for future infestation, as fleas/flea eggs could still be in your carpet or around your living area.

Hope the advice is helpful!
