OH SHI-!

Do Not Fucking Buy one!! They stink, no matter what you do. They really, really stink, and that smell gets all over your house, and your clothes and your furniture and YOU. It's like having a constant smoker in the house, but with a different smell. Don't believe them! They smell even if you remove their scent glands. THEY SMELL.

Yeah well they're cute as hell. Maybe I'd be okay with being a stinky bastard

Yeah, don't buy, adopt!
The younger the better, so they'll socialize okay.

This doesn't sound like you understand or are prepared for the type of smell that is a ferret. They really do stink... you pretty much have to give them an entire room to themselves. Yes, they are cute... but they are a lot of work to keep.

My sister had one. He stunk, but no worse than a guy does. Or at least the fat bastards around here.
We kept the smell pretty contained by keeping his sleeping pen in one room and washing his sleeping material at least once a week.
Though they're not really litter box breakable, at least not like a cat. You gotta put the litterbox where they go so that they actually go there.
I don't see where they're any harder to take care of than cats, dogs, or children.
Truthfully, if you ever plan on having kids, a ferret will be a good testrun. They do get into everything, they smell, and they're hyper as hell. The ferret has the bonus of staying small and being furry and cute.
