Growths Anonymous
A little while ago I had some four gouramis, twelve neon tetras and about six Zebra Danios.

Now I only have the tetras and the Danios. At first I only saw it on one of the Gouramis, and I thought it was just a bite from one of the others, since they had been fighting from time to time. It looked like a small fleshy bump that was white at the tip. It was very small. I didn't do anything, but I kept my eye on that fish. Soon, the bump grew and I got paranoid. I isolated the fish in my hospital tank. Was fine for a week and then I found it dead. After flushing it, I noticed a similar bump on two of the other Gouramis.

Long story short... my gouramis are all dead and it has been almost a month since the last one bit it. My Neons and my Zebras are all fine and none have shown the slightest change. What the hell happened to my gouramis?

Gouramis are really prone to fungal diseases and the such for some reason. You probably had 3 males and they were fighting, and an open wound became infected with fungus and they died from that.

Have a fungal remedy on-hand, or, what I prefer, Melafix, sold at every respectable LFS.

A generic fish ailment cure:

- turn temp up 2-3 degrees
- add aquarium salt
- add blue 'ick' treatment

You isolated the fish with the visible white spot but by the time it was visible the infection had already permeated and infected your whole tank.
