Ok guys, am I the only person around that actually LOVES pitbulls? That law that bans them to me is just a big cumdumpster piece of shit. There is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners, I had a pitbull and he was the friendliest dog ever.

Pitbulls were BRED FOR VIOLENCE.
For hundreds of years they were used in bull/bear baiting, in hunting, as war dogs.
They were not bred to be friendly dogs. They did not have their violence bred out of them.

I could go on OP but you're a dumbshit.
>> Anonymous
they're good, ignore the retards who say they're dangerous
>> Anonymous
>>301157
No, they ARE dangerous. A pit is a lot like a gun. In the wrong circumstances they can easily go off on a bystander. But if you're a responsible owner you can pretty easily prevent it. The thing is, if you keep with the analogy, there's a fair number of pit owners who are the kinds to be twirling a loaded gun on their finger with the safety off.
>> Anonymous
None of this matters because my dog is my property. If I can have a gun, then I should be able to own a pitbull.

Pitbulls suck ass, but I am sure that most of them are nice dogs, especially if they have some mutt in them. But most homeless people probably won't slit your throat in your sleep, but I still aint inviting one home.

tl;dr: A dedicated breeder could fix temperment in several generations, and I'm sure many have. See also, dobermans, mastiffs, rotties

OP, is there a law against Pit Bull mixes? Also, if there were no papers, how could they prove the breed of the dog? You could always tell them the dog LOOKS like a Pit Bull but is actually a mix that looks like one, or a Pit Bull mix of some sort.

I love Pitbulls. Most of the ones I see are very sweet and wiggly giggly. I work at a vet, so I see quite a few. Unfortunately, a lot of owners are morons...I can't tell you how many Pits I see with parvo.
>> Anonymous
I don't have anything against Pitbulls if they're the friendly, not-trained-to-rip-my boobs-off sort.. I'd imagine they're as friendly as a well-trained Rottweiler or Doberman. But then, Rottweilers do have a bit of a hair-trigger.. I probably wouldn't own a Pitbull personally (fox terrier fan), but you'll get no shit from me if you do.

On a different note, PIG DISGUSTING earcropping in OP's pic.

I think it's completely justified that some breeds are illegal. Such as an incident that happened at my workplace.

I work as a quantity surveyor at a building site, and we've been having some recent issues with people stealing from the site, so we brought in 24-hour security. We had no idea that it was a guard dog. It was the biggest dog I had ever seen. An absolute BEAST. It was gentle as hell with it's owner though, all floppy and licking him.

A few hours later, I saw the dog on the site, lying on the ground, looking bored. I went over to it to say hello...
And I have never jumped so far in my entire life. It leaped up at me with a bloody racket. GRAGAHGRGRGSRHARGRGARGRGRAH comes to mind. I seriously thought it was going to rip open the muzzle it had on and pull the chain out of the wall it was chained to. I just ran for my life.
So yeah. Fuck your aggressive dogs.
>> Anonymous
Most aggressive dogs are either picked for the litter for their aggression or have been trained. Especially guard dogs.

Pitbulls are sweeties, but so are a lot of the 'dangerous' dogs. If handled properly and trained, they are wonderful pets. Any dog can be dangerous, it's just the breeds that are used for fighting that get the bad rap. They are trained and abused to get them to be as vicious as they can be. If treated properly and if they already have a good temperament, they're fine.

If you abused and trained a retriever to be a fighting dog, I'm pretty sure the breed would start getting banned as well.
>> Anonymous
When you read or hear about dog attacks, or see them on tv, you usually see that their owners are dumbfucks.
Sure they were bred to be figthing dogs, but so were the various brees of mastiff, but the mastiff doesn't have the same rap.
Why? Because the 'user base' of pitbulls is mostly idiots, rednecks, and 'gangstas' who don't know how to integrate themselves into society, much less a dog.
If you have anyone with a half a brain and who knows how to raise dogs, pitbulls are awesome.
It's the high percentage of idiot owners who give this breed a bad name.
Hell, the meanest fucking dog I have met wasn't a pitbull or any of the more aggressive breeds, it was a fucking weiner dog. It was a tiny hellbeast, proof that it's not the breed, but the owner who makes a bad dog.
BTW, that little fucker used to silently creep up behind people in the neighborhood and nip the back of their ankles and then go all tasmanian devil on your ass.

OP here, Laws vary broadly depending on where you are located. In the USA and Canada the Breed Specific Legislation Law is regulated by state and province respectively. In Australia I believe it is regulated on a municipal matter. Not sure how the UK works though.

As crazy as it sounds, I've heard of cases where dogs are put to sleep just because "it looks like a Pit bull"

It's sad how nobody cares about it because Pit bulls tend to have an intimidating look, although they're amazing if trained properly, but when you do anything to an animal that looks "cute and puffy" everybody rages.

List of places where Pit bull is banned

Ontario, Canada
Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
Australia
France
Norway
Iceland
Singapore
United Kingdom
Denmark
New Zealand
The Netherlands (will be canceled by the end of this year =] )
Serbia

Pit bulls can be great dogs and I have been the sole caretaker for one myself.

Unfortunately, the Pit Bull (Staffordshire, whatever...) breed is more susceptible than most to bad breeders, bad owners and bad trainers. There are just too many people out there trying to breed them for fighting or raising them badly. It's weird seeing two dogs of the same breed, one is absolutely great and the other is a violent psycho.

That being said, I would have absolutely no problem leaving small children alone with a good pit bull. The breed is ideal for young adults and families with children. The dogs don't mind getting pulled, poked, prodded or slapped (although you can still use the slapping for disciplinary purposes if you start at a young age). They are active dogs that don't suffer from going stir crazy like others. They bond well to a single owner or to a whole family. I always like playing tug-of-war games with them (I lost a lot, lol).

The only real problem is that with a lot of other breeds you can look at the dog and know what you should expect. With pit bulls it could be a dog anywhere across the spectrum depending on how it was bred and raised. That, in my opinion, is the biggest problem with the breed.

As other posters have said, Pitt Bulls have been bred for violence for hundreds of years, and, unlike other "bred for violence" dogs, they are still being bred for violence. A pure bred pit bull WILL be violent. As another person said also, the violence level could be taken down a bit in a few generations of selective breeding, but it takes a long time to breed out hundreds of years of violent tendancies.

>> Anonymous
>>301113There is no such thing as a bad dog.

...Unless the breed has been bred for aggression and PURE KILLING POWER for many, many years.

For every person I hear claiming they have a 'sweet' pit bull, another is getting their face eaten off by the pet they've had for years. A few years ago in my city, a pit bull (albeit one of the 'bad ones') got loose and ran down the street literally tearing the limbs and guts from every person he saw. Police described it as a scene from a horror movie.

I'll only consider pit bulls a safe breed once they've spent as many years breeding them for sweetness and docility as they have breeding them for aggression.

Pits were bred to be gentle and sweet with HUMANS. One of the most popular breeds of dog in the early 20th century. If a pit ever even looked cross-eyed or growled at a human, that pit would be swiftly culled to prevent its genes from tainting the pool. Pit bulls only have a bad reputation because of people currently associated with the breed.

I didn't say they were. Just that nobody's legislating wolfhounds or huskies despite their physical capabilities for harm because rednecks and gangbangers don't breed, torture, train to kill, and fight wolfhounds and huskies.

It's unfortunate for people who respect the breeds and for the fate of the breeds themselves but, when you consider that we live in a society where Michael Vick got less than a year in prison and has a multimillion dollar contract waiting for him when he gets out, maybe its best for the dogs.

There are bad dogs, but the media can't tell one breed from another:

Presa Canario
Tosa-Inu
Dogo Argentino
American Bulldog
even the Boxer can/have all been mistaken (or maybe not, just easier for them to consider them all the same) for the American Pit Bull Terrier. So if one dog does something they just blame the Pit Bulls.

that's fucking retarded. pitbulls are evil dogs that eat human hearts for breakfast with sprinkled cane sugar on top.
>> Anonymous
Pitbulls are only mean and aggressive when they have been trained to be like that.
My cousin had a pitbull, and it was the friendliest dog I ever knew.
The most aggressive dog I ever met looked like a big grey german shepard, almost- he might have even had a bit of wolf in him. He terrorized the entire neighborhood- he'd corner people against their doors and growl, while being a threatening posture. Once or twice, he would even lunge and try to bite.
>> Anonymous
They should be banned. NO EXCEPTIONS
>> Anonymous
>>Pitbulls were BRED FOR VIOLENCE.
So were a shitload of other dogs, mind you.

And since the real problem is the owners, even if you succeed in banning pit bulls, the idiots would just gravitate to another "tough" dog and start the whole fucking thing over again...
>> Anonymous
While I do know some people who have sweet pit bulls, I will say that they are maybe just a bit more 'prone' to going AWOL than a lot of other, tamer breeds.
I'm saying its a dog breed that if you don't handle it just right, or work with it well from puppy-hood, it has a STRONG CHANCE of taking on violent tendencies. You could say 'same for any dog!!' but I honestly believe a few breeds are just more inclined to become vicious. German Shepherds can also be like this, along with a lot of small-breed dogs. Pitbulls are certainly in this range of dogs. They get a DOUBLE-BAD rep because YES, idiots are MORE PRONE to get pitbulls to look cool and thus end up with a vicious dog they wouldn't train properly. Because they're so talked-about, you perpetuate the 'bad pit bull' just because so many people buy one thinking its 'just another dog' and don't learn about its needs. OR, they find humor in how riled up the dog gets, or otherwise just train it to be a bastard.
You don't even have to train a pit to be bad, however. The dog breed is naturally inclined to have its aggressive tendencies, the same as a Corgi wants to bite ankles, or how blahblahblah words.
tl;dr this thread is bad and you should feel bad

If we can say pitbulls were bred for violence, then we can also say niggers were bred for violence.
>> Anonymous
>>301789
Niggers were bred for stupidity and physical strenght, though. Aggresiveness is a secondary trait they gain due to being discriminated by the people who turned them into what they are now.
