Hey, /an/, it's been a very long time.

Some of you may remember me and Cocoa. We live in Nova Scotia, right now. We're moving to British Columbia in two months. We'll be staying with a friend of the family while we hunt for a house. We can't keep a dog there. I'm trying to figure out what to do. Suggestions? How do dog kennels work? I really don't want to give up my dog...

Looks like a medium-sized dog to me.

Anonymous does indeed remember, and it has been a long time!

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. Boarding kennels are going to vary from location to location, so I would start scoping out a place ASAP to find exactly what you're looking for. If you've got the money, some of those places are really high quality and should be a pretty pleasant experience for your dog. You might even be able to use a vet's boarding services, but I'm not sure if they typically do long term stuff.

Good luck with your house hunting. The quicker, the better!

Thanks. I don't suppose you know how long, on average, kennels allow boarding?

Also, this should be a good time to mention another puppy, one of Cocoa's sisters. Some of you may remember that she, and two others, were stolen by a group of young men. During the 'chase', they threw two of the puppies back, to get away. After a month, the one remaining puppy was recovered by police.

Well! The owners of Cocoa's parents decided to keep her. She was rather shakey for awhile, but has grown to be a great, happy dog! Appropriately named "Lucky".

I remember. Bastards....
Anyway - Some kennels will allow you to visit, feed and clean your dog daily by yourself. You will have to ask around! Most kennels are encrusted with filth and dog humpers though, so ask for an inspection. Why can't the doggie stay at a friend of your friend's place? You could pay them, and visit your doggie as well. Just make sure that the place is well fenced and the friend is not a stupid jerk.
Good luck with everything! Don't completely trust animal transport companies though - do some Google research on how to best transport your dog if you are doing it yourself, or hiring company.
What's it like living there in Canada BTW? I always wanted to holiday and maybe stay for a while. It seems pretty fair and progressive over there. Someone I talked to once said "We don't need lawyers over there." How true is THAT?
Oh, and what will happen to kitty?

We'll be transporting the dog ourself. I'm going to try hard to find a friend of a friend to take her in, but it just seems unlikely. Kennel pricing can get rather high, I imagine... Hopefully it all works out though. I didn't know that you could go and feed/clean/play with your dog, at them. That sounds spectacular!
