So, my laptop won't start-up anymore, now leaving me without a computer (I'm currently using a friends)
I've been thinking about buying a new computer anyway, so I can play games without a laptops limitations. The deal is, however, I own three very active rats.
They have full range of my room (I live with my folks so I don't have a separate room for the rats) and one of my rats loves to chew stray wire cords into bits.
My question is, is there a way I can keep my rats from getting to the wires?
I'm thinking about blocking my computer into a drawer of some kind and buying 'chew guards' for all the cords and such but I'm afraid they will still find a way to get to the wires.

Does anyone else have experience with their rodents and protecting wires/cords from them?

Cover the cords, pvc tubes or other covering cord stuff you find at home depot and such.

Frankly, what I'd do in this situation is build a PC with a lame tabletop case that you put the monitor on top of. The kind you see at schools. Everything on top of your desk, only wires in range of rodents would be main power and network. Easy enough to ratproof 2 cables, and one of them would be harmless to the rat to eat through. Then just only let them up on your desk under close supervision.

My rats won't bother wires really. My chinchillas can't resist them.

it might not look very pretty but maybe ducttape them onto the wall about one or two feet above the ground. its what ive done to prevent my 2 rats from chewing up my wires

I don't care much about how pretty my room looks. Thank you! All these idea's examples have been very helpful!

My ratties got into my wires and nearly electrocuted themselves... and me when I frantically reached in to get them. After that, I had all the cords taped up out of their reach.
