Hey /an/, it's "get my cat to pee in a cup" Anonymous again. The styrofoam peanut idea was awesome and worked really well, and the vet said she does have a slight infection, and gave me liquid antibiotics to give to her. He suggested giving it to her orally or putting it on her food.

Well, some fucked up ass decided cats like bubble gum and flavored the antibiotics as such, and my cat hates the smell. She won't eat her food if I put it on it and I don't want her starving. So, I've been trying to shove the little plastic-tipped syringe into her mouth and give it to her that way (she only needs one mL in the morning and one at night), but she bucks and sticks her tongue out and drools it out and won't swallow. Is there any good way to hold her down or make her swallow so she'll actually take it?

tl;dr version: Get my cat to swallow her damn medicine. In b4 swallowing cum etc, I know you guys too well.

If I say I'm a guy, you'll give me a whole lot of shit and maybe some answers. If I say I'm a girl, you'll give me no answers, a whole lot more shit and a whole lot of "tits or gtfo." Can't I just be Anonymous for now?

Thank you kindly! I have googled a bit, as everyone should, but I figured sometimes asking for experience helps too. You never know around here.

true that. we should rub genitalia sometime.

Having another person to help makes it more doable... try to get her restrained (holding her head and neck so they don't move much) then poke the end of the syringe in one far corner of her mouth between her 'lips' and squeeze it in through there. That way she doesn't have to open her mouth or gag because it just goes in... just let her swallow occasionally.

book quote time again.
"how to medicate a cat
if your cat becomes ill it may be necessary to medicate it at home; here are the instructions to make it as trouble-free as possible. two people may be needed; one to hold the cat, the other to give the medicine. to prevent scratching restrain the cat by holding it's rear legs in one hand and the front in the other or by wrapping it in a towel. pour liquid medicine into the side of the cat's mouth from a dropper. hold the cat's mouth shut until the medicine has been swallowed." the book's called "how to hold a crocodile" and it's taught me all sorts of random shit, and not just about animals.

just shove it down her throat.
I know that sounds harsh, but its pretty much the only way; she will swallow it to keep from choking. if you do what 122256 said, she will hack it back out

Sometimes stroking their throat generates the swallowing response as well. If you do manage to pin her and get it in her mouth, rub up and down her vocal chords on her throat. Hope that helps.

Depends on the cat, really. Try a few different methods.

Kneel, and hold the cat up on it's back legs, positioned between your legs. Hold it by the head- their knecks won't snap within the 30 seconds this takes. With your hand curled around it's throat, force it's mouth open from the sides with your thumb and index finger. Push the syringe in there, almost to the back of the throat and squeeze it out. Quickly hold the cat's mouth tightly shut around the muzzle and top of the head and massage it's throat with the hand that previously held the syringe. It will have no choice but to swallow. I used this on my kittens when they were 9 weeks and refusing all but milk, mashed up some wet food and put it in a cake decorating syringe. Works fine as long as you can handle a few scratches.
