hey /an/ i have a few very stupid questions about yorkies. my aunt and i just acquired one from an older lady who did not take care of it (name is Max). she would leave him tied out all day and because of this he isn't totally house trained. he is about a year old now and is very submissive and scrawny.

my question is, how do we keep him clean after he pees? we are taking him outside frequently to teach the whole housetraining and he is learning very quickly but it seems he can't help but to pee all over himself every time he goes out. he is not neutered though we are going to do that as soon as possible, despite the previous owner's wishes that he be used to stud.

should we get him groomed in a specific way? my aunt has never had a toy breed this small. she had a pekinese and a poodle before but we've only had females.

thanks for any advice.

Yep, ask for a full sanitary, and maybe some shelling out underneath. Or you could just get all the fur trimmed down (it would save you brush time). Just talk to your groomer, unless you go to some place that has terrible customer service you will get a chance to say what you want done.

I'm currently going to grooming school and we get yorkies in all the time. Normally we end up shaving most of their fur off for the owner's convenience. If you don't want to brush it that often then I recommend just asking them to shave him clean and leave a little more length on the head and face (this keeps them from looking like rats.)

Get a shave over the body and a "short mutt face". Mutt being the operative word. Some people call it a teddy face or a panda face, so you might have to specify.

A good example of what I'm trying to explain can be seen here: http://kingyorkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/different-yorkie-cuts-2.jpg It's cute, sanitary, and doesn't require a lot of work besides a little brushing and repeated grooming visits every 4-8 weeks to keep it nice and tight.

Hope that helps, OP!

This is kinda what I do to my yorkie. The pic they gave was kinda too clean though. I prefer a more puppy look to the face. Pic related.
