I am considering getting a ferret. I'm not put off by the whole scent glands thing or their biting habits but is there anything i should know before getting a ferret... ive heard you pretty much need to have two ferrets so they don't get depressed

Get one from a shelter, these are the best kinds of ferrets to get. Hopefully you'll be lucky like me and get a ferret that needs to live on their own.

Are you willing to patch up almost every hole in your home?
Ferrets will try to take advantage of every suspicious hole and crevice in your house and will escape into other rooms or even outside if they aren't properly treated.

Can you devote 4 hours of supervised playtime for your ferret?
Ferrets get bored very easily, and they're going to need more than a few toys to keep them busy.

Do you know what kind of foods/cages/litter/toys they must have and must not have?

Last of all, do you know what the type of diseases ferrets are prone to?

How well would a kitten get along with a ferret, whether it's an adult or a younger ferret?

if you're worried of them biting, consider getting an older ferret. only 1 ferret ive ever had was a biter after its first year or so. the males tend to be more loving in my experience, too

if the kitten's cool with it, it should get along with a ferret just fine. kittens have claws, and once the ferret learns that, it probably won't try to play too rough with the kitten. again, older ferrets are still better in that sense

Your remote control buttons. The rubbery little mouse nub on your laptop. The foam on your headset. The stuffing of your couch. They will all be mine.

I've had 4 ferrets before and NONE of them have ever bit me (besides playfully) A lot of the ferrets you can buy will probably be descented before you buy them. (and, probably fixed) You can usually tell if they have a tattoo on their ear that looks like little green/blue dots.
Make sure you clean the cage often though, that is what will get smelly.
They each will have their own personality and weird habits. I had one who enjoyed taking socks that were left out and hiding them in her "ferret hole". She would even try to steal them right off peoples feet! I had another who was very calm and relaxed and the newer one I had was completely crazy.
Walk around barefoot when they are running around so you can feel them before you step on them as they may run under your feet or even burrow under the carpet (carpet shark)
They can be litter trained but they just love to use the bathroom in the corners of the house so try to train them to use the bathroom before you take them out of their cage.
Give them some toys to play with in their cage, but be forewarned, if you keep them in the same room you sleep in, they will probably keep you up at night!
You should clip their nails and that will probably be hard to do as they are restless. I suggest you get something called "Linaton" (I think that's how it is spelled) smear a bit on their bellies and they will be too busy licking that off of them to bother fighting you when you clip their nails.
They are really fun animals just be ready to give them their time out of their cage.
