Jacques Cousteau was an idiot. In one of his first docus they capture sharks and kill them, cause they are "evil".

I have a soft spot for Attenborough, I've loved his documentaries since I was but a wee kid.

cousteau's narration were real works of poetry

that was common practice in the seafaring world until the 70s.
typically on of the duties of the crewmember on watch was to shoot sharks with a rifle. its a tough shot due to refraction

The one on grasshopper mice was fucking awesome...damn mini rabid wolves, gram for gram the most ruthless, vicious, satan of an animal on the planet. I'm 20 miles from where he grew up, so I have a soft spot for Marty, have a signed copy of his book, too bad he was the topic of a fag movie with JTT and Devon Sawa though unfortunately

Fuckin' oath. Also, a lot of nature documentarists (not a word I know but I'm drunk so fuck you) tend to get involved in long standing debates about their techniques and presentation. A lot of them simply can't resist staging something, but apart from 'Life of Plants' and probably some of the insect sequences, I think Attenborough has always done the old fashioned way: dig a hole, disguise oneself and wait for something to happen while one keeps one's finger on the camera. He's also done more recent docos where they went to great lengths and various technologies to disguise said cameras; American bears and Indian tigers, I think. Some of the beasties would actually play with the cameras as toys. Attenborough can't get all the credit, of course, but the people backing him up are often brilliant.
