Get a jade plant. Only needs watering once every two or three weeks. Even I've been able to keep one of these babies alive and thriving.

If it seems too big, try an aloe.

plastic plants.
Seriously.
One of my plants went foul due to too much water and it stank like HELL.
Vomit inducing hell.

Are you fucking kidding? If you cant look after a simple houseplant you only have yourself to blame. OP get a yucca or palm of some sort, theyre easy to care for.

Thanks for the suggestions.

lol wut

Also, another thing I'd like to add is...
Are there types of plants which don't attract as many insects as some others? One time I grew a little herb and it got bugs up the wazoo.

Yes, some plants will attract insects more.
Example: Buddleja davidii or butterfly bush.
Butterflies just go crazy on this.

Not Op, but that sounds really interesting if I wasn't so damn afraid of butterflies, children might find it whimsical.

how the fuck are you afraid of butterflies?

Not that guy, but I'm fucking terrified of moths. It's like someone being scared of spiders, except people find it stupid about 99% of the time.

But they also are very demanding of light, water and nutrients if you want a good strong potent yield

How much light is in your bedroom OP?

If it's low light I would go for a Peace lily.

Medium or high light would let you grow more interesting things like orchids or begonias.

I live next to like 3 nurseries, I just grab a reject and nurse it. I also snip flowers here and there and make bouquets
