What kind of dog is that?

I just bought a St. Bernard puppy. Is it safe to wrestle around with them? I'm a big guy, 6'5" 270lbs. I don't want to make him aggressive when he grows up though, but I think this would be fun.

All I've ever had were toy dogs that I grew up with and now my parents are helping me buy a dog of my own (and taking care financial problems) and since I'm home schooled and will be going to a nearby university taking care of him should never be a problem.

A big one.

Caucasian shepherd/Ovtcharka.

Most people will tell you not to do that with your dog because if he wins, he's going to think he's dominant. But if you can kick his ass, I don't see why not.

I heard so that as long as I get him on his back every time and end the gameplay like that I'll stay dominate in his mind.

I figure that's true.

Don't thank him, thats the wrong name.
Caucasian Mountain Dog or Caucasian Ovcharka. They aren't shepherds.

Also: Don't wrestle with him now if you don't want to wrestle with him later.

I've never seen a German Shepherd that huge. So cute!

As I've mentioned, I'm a pretty big guy. I have pretty thick skin so don't mind nips, but if even I'm too small to handle a friendly full grown dog at that size I'll be sure to stick with Kongs and shit like that.

Once again... this is _my_ first dog and it's our first big breed.

Wrestling with your dog is considered playing.

Playing with your dog is good.

Anyone who says otherwise is a dogfag.

Chances are that not everyone who comes in contact with your dog will be your size, so be careful.

Be gentle on him when he's young, and you should be fine. Make sure to socialize him with other people, though, as well, and teach him that that's not acceptable play with everyone.

As for the dominance, you shouldn't need to worry or try to proactively establish your own as long as he doesn't try to on you or others.

Oh Bitter Anon, why are you so bitter?
Do you know what Ovtcharka is? Surprise, surprise, its a Russian word for "shepherd dog". Do you know what it was bred for? Surprise, its main activity was shepherding. Do you know how this dog is called according to FCI nomenclature? Surprise surprise, it is called Caucasian Shepherd Dog.

It's very safe and fun for both parties to wrestle with your dog (wrestling with dogs belonging to other people can turn into a nasty bloodbath).

When it's a puppy, just wrestle with one hand without putting too much pressure on the lil fellow. Just use basic common sense and don't hurt it. Putting too much pressure on joints, his body or head could really mess a puppy up. As your dog grows up, the wrestling will naturally progress into full body stuff, especially for a St Bernard (prepare to lose some weight if you're regularly gonna wrestle a big dog).

Just have fun with your dog, don't make a sport out of it, lol.
