Baby leopard geckos are cute. I don't know anything about them though.

Not a lizard, but corn snake ftw.

Get a tokay gecko, I hear they are extremely cuddley.

Get a bearded dragon, they're great. But anoles are fine too. Bearded dragons are bigger, though, but they're still usually less than 2 feet long.

Presumably his tail broke off partially or was wounded. Then it began to grow in again, leaving him with two tails. Then his original tail broke, and a crappy little curly tail grew in on the end, giving him three tails. This lizard is roughly three years old now, and still lives in my garden.

Get a komodo dragon. They're verry cuddly and have good mouth hygiene.

Nah just kidding.I'd suggest a bearded dragon,too.They're awesome.Yeah,maybe a gecko?Or two geckos?Maybe an iguana,but these get pretty fucking big.

You can get crested geckos. They don't get that big and they're pretty fucking sweet.

or maybe a santanic leaf gecko.
fucking awesome things.

Jesus fucking christ, don't get an anole they die in like 3 minutes and are no fun at all.

Bearded's are probably the best for a beginner because they are easy to care for and take handling well.

What? I kept an anole when I was younger.. he lived several years and was tame enough to handle. I'd take him to the window sill and let him eat little bugs. He was pretty rad.
>> Anonymous
I had a similar experience. I kept 3 anoles in a 20-gallon aquarium, and they lived several years. They are easy to take care of!
>> Anonymous
Since you asked, I own a cat, two dogs and a pig. I'd recommend a pig.

I think it's hilarious how petsmart thinks they can sell anoles here in southern Louisiana WHERE THEY ARE FRIGGIN EVERYWHERE. They were trying to sell them for like seven dollars a pop. Seriously, if anyone wanted on I could probably catch about twenty without breaking a sweat on my front porch.
>> Anonymous
WHen I lived in North Carolina I saw the OP lizard everywhere. Just go outside and catch one.

wow, you are dead wrong.

This is OP, and i had like 3 anoles in a 20 gallon tank. fed em live crickets, gave them heat and water, they lived from when i was in 3rd grade til just before high school. hardly 6 years, but they were full grown when i got em.

i'm looking for something different this time around though. and i'll probably have the money to support a larger critter.

oh, and I live in NC, and yea, anoles are pretty easy to find in the more rural areas. suburbs not so much.

My sister has a bearded dragon and it is the most friendly reptile I have ever met. It breaks out of its cage to sleep in bed with her. Moving from its nice super toasty tank (not too hot), to a rather cool bed. Its gotten to the point where he has his own pillow and a little blanket (towel). For a while he was going though 3 dozen crickets a week (than again, he was growing a minimum of 1-2 inches a week). So they can be pricey.

Do alot od research, petco will try to tell you that they can live in a 20 gallon long tank... and they cant. Not even close. Even though he ate alot of crickets when he was yuonger, he hardly ever does any more and mostly eats veggies. Also, they love wax worms and wilk worms. Excelent, friendly reptiles. If your looking for a good lizard pet, a beardie is the way to go.

so i'd need a decently large enclosure for him you say?
>> Anonymous
As they grow, yes. You can use a 20gal while they are young though.
>> Anonymous
for a bearded dragon an enclosure that is four feet long and two feet wide is preferable

I have a pet bearded dragon, and I agree with what everyone else said about bearded dragons making great pets. They're interactive, lively, spiky but cute, very docile, will sit on your shoulder and like (or at least they don't mind) being handled, are exotic and interesting but not vicious or hard to care for.

They need a lot of stuff, of course, especially is you want a plump, happy, and spoiled pet. Like, they eat a ton of a crickets and they should eat greens too (regular veggies like romain letture are fine.) And of course they need heat lamps and UV lights and big tanks and everything.

But if the OP already has experience with pet lizards, a bearded dragon should be really simple.

Here's a picture of my Beardy posing with my younger sister's parakeet for a school project or something.

I say get some geckos. I grew up in an area where anoles and geckos were everywhere. I used to play with them all the time, bring them home, feed them bugs, etc. Don't know what type of geckos they were though (I lived in Okinawa).

Hey OP in my house we have kept green iguanas, beardies, fat-tail geckos, and tokay geckos.

If you do get a diurnal lizard (a lizard thats awake in the day) one of the healthiest things to do is make a cage out of wiremesh as an outdoor sun cage for them. Make sure its designed in such a way that the lizard cannot pop it open somehow, and put a stick in their for basking. The sun helps them make a lot of vitamins. We took our iguanas and beardies out at least 4-6 hours a week, stay near the cage though just in case a hawk or buzzard starts getting curious.

Once during mating season, our male iguana was lounging in the tree in our backyard (we trained the iguanas once they got big enough). He got off the tree and was walking in the backyard when all of a sudden a male anole puffed out his throat and ran towards him to fight him. Once the anole realized that this intruding male was 5 1/2 feet long that anole got on his hindlegs and ran like crazy.
