Room Mates Dog Anonymous
My room mate whos also my brother, rescued a dog from a "puppy factory" a few months ago. The dog was mistreated and doesn't really trust anyone but him, if you try and walk up to it it just runs away. Now the problem is he works long hours every day and is forced to leave it in the backyard on a dog run with a bark collar because it barks non stop when he leaves. He doesn't even really have time to poop train it or anything and it is nearly impossible for anyone else to train it.

Now I'm wondering if there are places where you can find families or people who are willing to take in dogs that have been mistreated in the past. People who have the time to give this dog that attention it needs. My brother is really attached to it and he would never let it go to the pound or some random person unless he knew they would be able to take care of it.

Pic related because it kind of looks like the dog.

Just pay to have the dog put to sleep one day. tell your brother it escaped

It's unfortunate, yes.

It's probably easiest to contact the closest Humane Society chapter, or something similar. Without knowing roughly where you are, it's impossible to suggest a good local shelter. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere, there should be at least a handful available.

Having said that, asking Anonymous for help concerning animals isn't exactly the greatest idea, since, well, I'll put greater than 50% of us are heartless bastards. Though, it's a nice attempt.

Good luck, Anon.

If you're up to it, why don't you try to gain the dog's trust and help train him when your brother's away?
(Obviously, you'd need your brother to help show the dog you can be trusted and what not).
But if you're not up to it, the best thing for the dog, really, is to google for some no-kill animal shelters near you that will care for him and get him adopted by someone who's up to it and all that. Because really, a life tied up in the backyard is not good for a mistreated dog in need of help.
My neighbour's dog went nuts that way, and he was normal when they got him. He ended up attacking every living thing in sight (but he was a tiny thing, very similar to the gdog pictured, actually), and nearly killing himself multiple times trying to escape. Finally they gave the poor thing away. I just hope it was to someone who'd actually take care of him.

Take it for walks and ask your brother to let you feed it once a day. It'll warm up to you.

I agree with the others. Start trying to get close to the dog- use any method available-- treats, pets, etc.. Slowly but surely the dog will gain trust in you, and then, other people. Letting it be or shoving it off to be someone else's problem isn't a good idea. If it goes to the shelter it will likely be put down.

Every animal deserves a 210% effort to save it's life. It really pisses me off when people see a sick or "problematic" animal and put it down..

I rescued a cat this past summer that likely would have been put down had he gone to a vet or a shelter.. He's bounced back and is the most affectionate cat I've ever met. Just showers everyone with love.

But he was sick as could be when I rescued him. So had I not claimed him as my own from square one, he may not have been here now.
