Hiya, /an/, first time poster here.

I work at an Animal Shelter (Humane Society, specifically) and naturally I've grown a bit attached to some of the animals there. Now, last friday, we got this beagle in, poor thing had been abandoned and was almost hit by a car. It's timid as all hell and near impossible to interact with, basically your typical frightened pooch.

Now, this picture here is my current dog. An Australian Sheperd named Milo, he's about 12 years old, very friendly, and is good with other dogs (he never bites, but he's always smelling them).

Would it be a bad idea to adopt this Beagle (it's mildly used to me), and put it in with my older, more social dog? Also, hypothetically, let's say I have to convince two older people that this would be a good idea. How would I go about doing such a thing? Hypothetically?

You're actually supposed to socialize dogs so I don't think this would necessarily be a bad thing if your dog is quite social. You'll just have to watch them together.

I'm sure you know to make sure your new dog is up to date on shots and the like. As for convincing people that's up to you to do, I have no idea what these people are like that you're trying to convince.

i would say bring the dogs around each other in a controlled environment, go from there.

It's not really an issue any more, The other dog has adjusted to people.
