I've had two rotties and known many others. They are very affetionate to their family and if raised properly, they would never harm a family member. They are, however, very protective (wich you all propably know alread) and may act aggressively in certain situations. Our rottie never really liked other dogs, but would rarely fight with them. She had the authority over other dogs without fighting them. One male rottie I knew liked to chew the familys other dog, a labrador, wich was castrated. He was a sweetheart with people, but didn't come along with other male dogs. I agree with some of the posters, these dogs are usually very nice, it's about the person who owns them how they grow up. I would rather trust my child with our rottie than any person.
