PACU HALP Anonymous Prime !/RDa1B/y1o
Okay, I've had a Pacu for a few weeks now, he's been in a temporary 10 gallon tank by himself while I cycle a 150 gallon tank for him, (Yeah I know, 300, I'll update in a couple years. I got a 150 gal tank because it was from a friend and it was free.).

He's about 6 inches long and I've been feeding him a variety of food including Cichlid pellets, algae pellets, romaine lettuce, zucchinis, mangos, cocktail shrimp, and even feeder guppies once in a while.

Now here's my problem...

Two days ago I thought I'd get him another guppy, what I didn't take into account was that it might be too big and I believe it was. He was at most 2 inches long and instead of eating it he was practically swimming around with it, it was crazy. Now it's no big deal I could care less, but now the Pacu barely eats, he'll barely touch his cocktail shrimp and I just put in some shredded lettuce and he hasn't even touched it.

Is he just scared? Or did he reach some sort of epiphany with that guppy. Wtf, plz halp /an/!

Your fish has become aware that in it's past it use to devour anything it saw fit. But now it sees that if a guppy can become such a good friend, he's figured that his other food might as well be alive. Give it a mean fish to eat, so he will change his mind.

=\ No I didn't... Fuck

What can I do to help before it gets "really" sick?

Also, the next day, I removed the guppy, is it still too late?

Unfortunately all you can do at this point is keep on top of the water condition and watch for other signs of illness to show up. If something else comes along with not eating, then you'll know what to medicate him with.

Thanks I'll keep monitoring it and I'll do a water change tomorrow.

KAY SO, I monitored my Pacu for a bit, so far, he'll eat Algae wafers and Cichlid pellets but nothing else, no lettuce, shrimp, etc.

Also, I think he's scared of me. =\ I've usually been pretty calm and slow moving around him, as to not spook him but I'm guessing it's not enough.

He has a little plastic tree root thing inside the tank that he constantly hide behinds, should I remove it and let his balls grow?

No; fish should have plenty of cover. Maybe that's why he's acting so skittish. Plants, caves, and a background to make the rear of the tank feel closed off - these are pretty important things for a fish.

In the wild Pacu will eat nuts that fall from trees.
They crack them open with their powerful jaws.
Why not give it a try?

Uhmmm anybody want to suggest a new reason why he's not eating like a pig?
Also he could go almost a month without eating a single flake so chill ;)
Also live food = horrible idea, unless watching your fish eat other fish is the only way you can make your dick hard during your meth benders. Though I don't see why you don't just beat your pit bull, or maybe lay your reticulated python out in the yard and let it eat stray cats?

I'm on 4chan, you seriously think you can phase me! lulz. I could watch a kitten suffocate to death in a mason jar. Also, that's probably a rick-roll anyway.
I was just making the point that it really isn't in your pet's best interest to feed them live food (and anybody that is smart and has expensive tastes in their fish or reptiles will tell you the same thing)

The other point that I was making is that having been in the pet industry for a long time, people who own oscars/pacus and feed them live fish are the same people who have a pit bull in the front yard chained to the gas meter, or are always wanting a reticulated pythin...namely white trash meth addicts, or Affrican-American meth addicts of the ghetto persuasion

Owns a pacu, oscar, pit bull, AND reticulated python, out of meth, dick soft, rolled on Mike Vic

Aren't Pacu generally nut and fruit eaters in the wild?
>> Anonymous
>>141629
yes.

As I wrote above, they will crack nuts open that float on the water.
It's not really surprising that a nut-eating fish won't eat guppies.
HAHAHA, OP is an idiot.
Next time inform yourself about the fish before you get one.
Or better yet, don't get one at all.

Any pacu that doesn't eat whatever will fit into it's mouth would be the first one I've ever heard about though

he's depressed, because you took his friend away.

Well okay, I'll keep the stuff in there. The back is covered but I took out the plants because, well, the day after I got him the plants were practically gone. Right now all I have in there is this large plastic tree root thing that he likes to hide under, (he can fit pretty easily inside it, its almost 3 times larger than the Pacu.), and as an added bonus I took out one of the light bulbs on that side of the tank so that its nice and shaddy for him. The only reason why I didn't add more cover was because I wanted him to acctually have space to swim around in there, it is a 10 gal after all. =\

Well, if you read my post, the 10 gallon is temp, and he is the only one in there so for at least a few more weeks he should be fine. I'm still cycling the 150 gal for it, (aiming for about a month or more.). Also, about the guppies, no, I feed him guppies "on occasion" as a "treat" to get him to acctually swim around and catch his food and have a little fun. The majority of the time, if you read my post, I feed him lettuce, cocktail shrimp, pellets, etc. As for pitbulls, they're illegal in florida and even if I did have one I would never hurt it, I would honestly feel too bad. =\

>>141635
I did my reseach, though through all the sites I drilled through I don't think any of them mentioned nuts, but thanks for that small detail I will try it out, as for you, you should probably do some research yourself, they do eat a variety of things. I'd repeat them for your special mind to comprehend but I'd rather be monitoring my Pacu's condition.

They're supposed to, they're omnivourous they eat just about anything. I just really hope that particular guppy wasn't sick and spread it to my Pacu.

On that note, is there any way to find out if a guppy or if any fish is acctually sick? The guppy I bought seemed fairly healthy from the looks of it anyway, scales were all there, finage was even and it had a bright orange coat.

Im pretty sure most of the time if people feed theyre fish live food is because the predator fish in the tank is generally a "predator" in the wild and giving them live food is fun for them.

As to how that relates to keeping dogs chained up and harming them, I'm not sure I want to know where you got your "pet industry" expertise.
