Frogs and toads(your buddy looks like a toad) are very diverse. You've got to tell us EXACTLY where you found it- what city and country you live in and the environmental conditions where you found it. Was it swampy, pondlike, dry? What?
>> Anonymous
isnt it illegal to pick up a amfibian animal
>> anonymous
Colorado denver usa and dry climate raining like hell though when he came out
>> anonymous

I live in New Mexico, and I see those all the time.
I THINK it's something in the Spea genus: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spea

I think your toad's a Woodhouse's toad. I don't have a good enough eye for the subtle differences, but it seems close enough. It's a common, unprotected toad, but it would be wise to return him to his habitat anyway.

And for YOU, a picture of the Colorado River toad. This is the one you can make pharmaceuticals from. You could just buy one if you want, they're not illegal to keep as pets.

This Gulf Coast toad lives in my Texan friend's backyard. Toads are so neat.

Hey, a reminder: always wash your hands thoroughly after handling ANY toad. Wear gloves if you've got 'em.

Doubtful. Likely this is a boreal toad.

If it is this creature, then it is a "threatened" species, and you should contact a wildlife rehab center or a local zoo or something along those lines. They may tell you to let it go, or they might tell you to bring it in.

OP please provide a good, clear shot of the toad's head from above. The difference between toad species is often easiest to discern by the ridges behind their eyes.

All toads can secrete a poison that will cause you to foam at the mouth and supposedly tastes terrible. It won't kill you, but you'll feel like shit for awhile. There's a hoast of other things you can get from them too. Pic attatched is the kind of photo I requested.

op here sry cant get any good pics of em from above

Quite a bit. It appears to be missing the ridges I spoke of, which indicates that it is indeed a boreal toad.

http://wildlife.state.co.us/About/OfficesAndPhone/
Please find the appropriate number on that page and call it and see what they think you should do. At the least, view the links I sent you earlier, as it may be useful to document the sighting of the species.

thx bitter
>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
No problem. I'm a huge proponent of wildlife surveys and conservation, and even one sighting of a rare species can be extremely important in a scientific setting (I'm looking at you, Arkansas Ivory Woodpecker).
>> anonymous
i cant call them now, they dont open for 2 more hours, do you think that he'll be okay in the thing i got him in for 8-9 hours while i sleep?
>> anonymous
i dont think i should let him/her go in my back yard or any thing
>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
>>129622
Defintely don't let it go just yet. It may be required to confirm the species. I don't think it's a good idea to let it sit in a small container like that for 8-9 hours, and please do be certain that it can get proper air in there, as it looks like it's just a jar with a blanket over it. That many layers of fabric.. may be hard to breath. Anyway, if they open in two hours, set an alarm for three hours, then call them. You can go back to sleep after you talk to them.
>> anonymous
good idea, it's a plastic peanut container with a plastic lid with holes drilled in the top
>> Anonymous
Look out! It may want to do battle when it's released, make sure you are a safe distance away from this belligerent bufonidae.
>> Anonymous
Lick the toad, you might get high.
>> I R BOOBIE
HALO I R A FRAWG!
>> Anonymous
I realize I'm a little late to the party here, but if you still have the toad in that container, it's going to need some moisture. A wet paper towel (make sure the water is de-chlorinated!) will do nicely.

Did you ever get it identified?
>> Anonymous
Its just an american toad. it cant hurt you.
i dont even think theyre noticably toxic
>> INVALID
>>129894
think at most if a dog bites into them, it causes them to froth.

I found one of those in my yard when I was little, I picked it up and the thing took a huge piss on me.

don't keep wild animals!!! you can't take a wild animal from it's habitat and expect it to be fine. let it go before you mess up it's instincts. it seemed like it was fine, set it free where it should be. go to the store and buy one. damn.

I must have kept countless toads. Those and a few tree-frogs. (the ones that stick to things) Sometimes they make funny noises.
>> Anonymous
just let it go, if you want a pet frog buy one from a petstore, this guy was minding his own bisuness, then you scoop him up.
