It's amazing that until recently, nobody has domesticated a fox. And even still there are no pups available in the pet market.

Might be because it happened in Siberia.

Actually, due to Russia's economy being in the tank, the funding for Belyaev's domestic fox program has taken some drastic cuts, and they are selling some of their animals as pets (and some as pelts) in order to help fund their operation. It's probably pretty difficult to get one outside of Russia, though.

It might be because domestic foxes reek to high hell. They haven't bred the smell out of them and if you've ever smelt a fox before, you know how badly they stink.

That and domestic foxes still have the habit of hiding food everywhere. So if you can put up with fox-smell, you then have to deal with rotting food-smell.

Cute isn't worth that much.

Pelts?! I know people who'd pay thousands to have a domestic fox, and I bet they're not the only ones in this world. You can make pelts out any old foxes, domestics are unique because of what's inside the fur. What a waste.

Actually, articles about the fox domestication mentioned that even though they did nothing to breed the "fox smell" out of them, they simply stopped smelling as a side effect to domestication. So no, they don't stink.

Okay let's bring the focus AWAY from fox cock. Like this amazing picture! Can you believe they managed to get a picture of three foxes all yawning in the same place at the same time? Remarkable!
