I don't know where else to go with a question like this...but...

It looks as if I'm going to lose one of my horses tonight. Long story short...what the fuck am I supposed to do with a horse corpse in Ohio. As much as I'd like to bury him in his pasture, I can risk tainting the ground water. So...what the fuck guys?

Very sorry to hear about your horse...

I don't know what's typically done with dead horses, I'm pretty sure you're not allowed to just bury them wherever. Perhaps cremation and doing the customary scattering of the ashes somewhere appropriate?

Second calling a vet, or animal services. They'll know what to do with a body.

Sorry about your horse, tho. That sucks.

Back during the Civil War, they'd make the new recruits bury the horses. You have to dig a big hole right next to them, break the legs, and roll the horse in. Now sometimes these horses had been dead for days in the heat, so it was always a good time watching these poor guys puking all over the place tring to bury a horse.
I guess this post wasn't really helpful, try calling a vet.

Don't you make me repeat it
Have a banana, have a whole bunch
It doesn't matter what you had for lunch
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it

Usually, you don't let horses die by themselves, since it's usually quite painful. Either, you make a vet come and put it to sleep, and then the vet will know what to do with the corpse, or you call the butcher. At least here the butchers are willing to come and pick the horse up, but it's quite stressful for the horse. They usually do it for free, though, but the vet costs money. Depends on how much you care about your horse.

I live in West Virginia..though my friend lives in Ohio. She runs a rescue..so not all survive.
It's now illegal to just dump a horse in the woods. For ne, the stench of a decaying 1800lb and health hazards and two, the toxins used to euthanize a horse is deadly to local fauna. (Hense no selling it to a butcher after euthanizia).
Calling a vet or waste management would be your best bet.
Or dig a six foot hole and drag him in. That's what we did with my mare when she passed on.
Sorry to hear about your loss.

Eat it, don't waste good meat. It's what your horse would have wanted.
