Fighting fleas Anonymous
So /an/. Here is my problem. I have a 12 year old cat that has a serious flea problem. I've tried flea medication that is applied to the neck area, I've used sprays, I've given him baths. We also vacuum frequently.
In any case, it doesn't appear that he has a lot of fleas, but there are a lot of eggs and dandruff caused by it. He is scratching so bad he will attack his own skin and frequently fall off where ever he is sitting. I'm not quite sure what to do. My other cat seems fine, so I'm not sure why the medications aren't working.
Do you have any suggestions?

Obviously you've only treated him with cheap shitty store bought items

Trash them now.

Take him to a mother fucking vet for good Flea Treatment and a shot to relieve itching. If you want to save money, buy your Advantage treatments online such as Ebay but beware to find the real stuff and detailed description. I paid $24 for 6 months of Advantage on ebay when 3 months were $50 by my vet the previous year, it is in its original packing, the first dose wipe out a load of fleas on her the first 24 hours.

Also buy a flea comb, your best weapon of defense.

Sprays are bullshit and potentially fatal, read the entire fucking label, they warn it is highly dangerous for dogs and cats and humans.

Fleas could transmit worms to your cat, you need to keep strict watch over his health, eating bathroom habits especially at his age.

Your vet can recommend a flea bomb to use after you get your laundry all out and in the wash, vacuum entirely. Remove all animals, reptiles, fish, birds from house. You have to wait at least 6 hours before entering any area in contact with flea bomber.

Revolution from pfizer is also very good, doesnt cost much more than advantage and protects against fleas and various types of worms. You can only get it through a vet's prescription though.
Also, like previous poster said, collars and pet store bought flea treatments are bullshit, they usually contain poison which can seriously harm your cat and also usually last only a week or two at most. You should definately see your vet asap!

ITT nobody bothers to tell OP that the other cats have fleas, his bed has fleas, his house has fleas, and the OP himself has fleas. Enjoy your bloodsuckers, cheapass.

Truth

Also, although you can see flea "dirt" (which looks like coffee grounds...it's flea poop), you can't see flea eggs. Fleas don't cause dry skin.

Protip: bathing any animal with flea shampoo will dry out the skin and cause itching and dandruff. Stop doing it.

also giving a flea bath after you've already put revolution or frontline can cause serious health problems and even death.

Anyone know a natural way to repel the fleas, my cat has them too, but they're more interested in me, they find my blood tasty.

No they don't find your blood tasty, they can't even digest your blood, They should be hopping off after the first few bites.

...Which means your cat must be swarming with fleas, since the ones biting you are new stock. Getting rid of the fleas from the cat would be easier at that rate.

All you really need to do is wear rainboots around the house and don't hug your cat. They can't jump all that high.

finally, a reason to throw common sense and fashion to the wind in terms of indoor sartorial antics!

The fleas don't live ON your cat. They usually live in the carpet and get on cat just for feeding, so wash up your home at last!
