Fail for failing to consider that young males almost always lack a curved plastron. And if OP doesn't know what the hell its gender is anyhow, he sure as fuck won't know what he's looking for when he starts trying to examine tail length and vent location for a positive ID on gender.
Make it easy--Assume OP saw a hemi, and OP takes his pet to a vet or specialist store to have it probed to find out if it's a boy or a girl. I'm willing to bet my blue tree monitor on hit being a male, though, whatever species it is.
