hey /an/,

I just caught this cute little fucker lurking around my house, and I proceeded to save him from my homicidal father. I'm just wandering what the hell kind of lizard this is, and what does his normal diet consists of, meaning whether ants and lettuce would do the trick.

He seems to have lost his tail and is about 3 cm long without it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Another pic.

Looks like a house gecko. A more appropiate diet would be small insects, preferably pinhead crickets.

Looks like a sand gecko maybe? Not sure by any means though.

Probably eats small insects and stuff like little worms.

Maybe this will help.

Looks like a gecko. They routinely lose their tails and regrow them - they lose their tails as a survival mechanism.

Not sure what they eat - bugs, I'd guess. They're common here in north Texas.

Don't release it.

Why? After reading a bit I don't think its in its best interest for me to keep it as a pet...

Good decision OP. I rescued one from my nephew that bought one from a pet shop for some stupid school project. I already have several reptiles and am somewhat experience with them, and he still died. Gave him proper food UVB lighting and shelter but the little guy still died.

>Gave him proper food UVB lighting

Nocturnal geckos like house geckos need about as much full-spectrum UVB lighting as frogs. Which is to say, next to none.

I saw one of these roaming around my bathroom and my ferret ran up and ate half of it in one bite lol.

i knew these were geckos since i could talk. have you never gone outside, op?
>> Anonymous
Yeah, it's a House Gecko. You should put him outside and let him go live his life.

But if you decide to keep him, a 20 gallon tall tank minimum, with vines and branches to climb on, a heat lamp, occasional misting to keep up humidity and provide drinking water, and a diet of small insects, mealworms, etc.

PROTIP: There are over 2000 different species of gecko.

You're right. This was about 2 years ago, so right off the yop I didn't remember everything. With the exception of my Leopard Geckos all my reptiles require UVB lighting. But I actually didn't put UVB lighting with him just a ceramic heat emitter and a heat pad to get the temperatures right.

House gecko, one of the most common reptiles in the southern US. Just let it go, they thrive on the bugs that exterior lights attract.

I can't go outside at night without seeing 4 or 5 hanging out by my porchlight gorging themselves on moths (I'm in San Antonio, TX).

What the Fuck are you talking about you 15 year old noob. Whoever it was that corrected my initial response wasn't being a smart ass or trying to win some fucking contest. He was simply correcting a piece of information that I put out there, and was doing it to correctly inform OP and anyone else out there on the proper care of a nocturnal reptile. Which was the same reason I originally posted in this thread.

Learn the proper use of words before you start using them asshole.

Successful thread.

It's an invasive species. I don't like them in my North America. They compete against native species and are usually more successful.

Kill it.

Oh no, not another helpful creature that just eats all the bugs that annoy the shit out of everyone. Get those gecko jerks outta here!

He's not part of the biodiversity of these regions. He's an artificially introduced pest. The OP has two morally correct options: 1. Keep it or 2. Kill it.

Unless he lives in Florida. That place is beyond help. What a shithole of fucked to death invasive species. If that's the case OP, do what you will. I'd recommend moving somewhere else.

Just fucking keep it, is my point. Toss it into a pickle jar with airholes, some dirt, a water dish, and give it a couple crickets every other day. Dust the crickets with vitamin supplement every other feeding (~$12 at a pet store, but it'll last for 100 geckos' lives). Shit, if you're the kind of guy who enjoys building shit, you could make a decent display enclosure and stick a whole bunch of those fuckers in. This is one of many animals here that you shouldn't feel bad about taking from the wild and keeping. They do great in captivity, there's an endless population of them in your yard, and they're entertaining. HOW IS IT NOT IN YOUR BEST INTEREST TO KEEP THEM?

I, and none of my ancestors, had anything to do with that, but I'm keeping up the European domination of this country through my residency. It's like taking stock in the domination of the blood and tear soaked soil of the Apache's homeland and infusing it with some fresh European blood.

They're my geckos now.
