My cat goes nuts when i scratch her there!

Uh sorry, catfuckingfreaks, thats not quite right. Female cats in heat have that response because it is sensitive, it is not sensitive so that they will have that response. Consequence is not causation. If it were purely mating behavior, why would male cats also respond that way?

On all mammals, the base of the spine is sensitive. It is also a place that many creatures have problems touching on their own (Especially obese ones, ever see a fat cat try and catch its tail? Insert obligatory human fatty joke here). Just like its pleasant to get a foot massage, its pleasant to have your back rubbed. Okay, so cats like the back rubbing moreso than the foot massage, generally, but you get the idea.

Unless of course by "base" you mean "underneath" then yes, you are scratching her cooter and getting her off and please don't do that because it creeps me the fuck out.

I've noticed scratching the base of the tail (that is, ABOVE the tail) is also a good way to get my cat to do something I want it to do. If I do it when he is sitting in the doorway pondering whether to go out or not, it will get him to lift up his ass, and often force him to make the decision. It also seems to make food more appetizing: scratching the base of the tail when he is examining his food will most usually make him not only to eat it with good appetite but also purr while doing so.

Having your own lower back scratched in the sauna is also one of the most pleasurable things you can do without pants on that doesn't involve sex...

My cat loves that too.

Sorry to burst all your bubbles, but yes it IS a sexual response. Both male and female cats have large clusters of nerves at the base of their spine, directly above their tail. These are very large pleasure centers for the cat, and wether the cat is in heat, not in heat, or even fixed, it will always invoke a response.

what is the cluster of nerves for? that is, what biological purpose does it serve?

I guess to make sex more enjoyable. As such spots are wont to do.

Several birds have something similar where certain points on their backs are extra sensitive/pleasurable when caressed.

Cats have fucking barbed penises. I don't think nature cares much about their comfort.

The barbs are there to ensure an orgasm for the female, which is pretty darn important as it is required for ovulation.
>> Anonymous
Okay, if it's a sexual pleasure center, why do male cats have it? For the homogay?
>> Anonymous
I've found that dogs enjoy it when they're scratched in that spot, too... although it usually prompts my dog to try to catch his tail.

Of course for the gay! Same reason male humans have a sexual pleasure INSIDE THEIR ASS.

ensure orgasm? I've always been told that it is extremely painful for the female when the male climaxes due to the barbed penis - which is why you'll hear cats screaming bloody murder when they're mating.

Yes, the orgasm thing is good enough. The barb is probably still a bit painful.

But an orgasm is actually a necessary trigger to make the cat egg drop down in the uterus.

I kind of wonder how they know that--has someone actually researched this, or is that an assumption from one of those nature shows where they have personified animal narration?

For all we know they might be yowling because they're enjoying it.
