Cat mouth & cleanliness Anonymous
Is it so bad to let my cat drink a little from my cup of milk (lactose free)? This is as far as it goes, I don't have her around the dinner table, giving her every scrap, thinking that she's a human part of the family.

But people freak out when they see it, and say it's gross, that the cat cleans their ass with that tongue. Is a cat's mouth terribly dirty?

Yeah, they actually are kind of dirty.... I doubt you'd get cat-herpes or something, but you probably shouldn't do that anymore.

Just give the cat its own milk...

Cat breath in my milk?! Blergh.

I don't think you'll die or even get sick.
I think this is just squeamishness.

If your cat is an indoor cat (not going to pick up any creeepy parasites outside) and you haven't gotten sick from his licks you're probably fine.

Just remind people that the definition of clean is relative. His mouth is *clean enough* that you don't get sick. And if they really don't like the association with cat's butt and tongue, just remind them that their food was grown in animal poo (manure fertilizer) and the milk came from the mammarys of an animal that is way more filthy than any house cat. Life is gross.

Just give her the dregs of the cup in a bowl or something instead of letting her have first shot at it, then put the cup in the dishes.

My cats are all indoor cats and they eat/drink off of my plate/glass and I've yet to get sick from anything.

actually, cat spit carries less gems than human or dog spit....additionally, saliva carries enzymes that are supposed to kill gems
ever tried dipping your finger in and let the cat lick it?
my tom's much the same: he always puts his nose in my breakfast, but when i put some milk (sometimes i think my cat's are happy i'm lactose intollerant...) in a bowl for him he ignores ist...
i haven't had him for long now, but so far i survived :D

White people are nasty, eating food behind their pets and letting them lick them all in the face and shit. Cats lick their assholes all the time, for God's sake. And the "they have detergents in their spit" argument is lame. Cat spit =/= Tide with Bleach. It's still cat spit.

It's fine if you want to share table food with your pet every now and then, but sharing utensils and plates and cups is NASTY.

I happened to switch in on reruns of "Meet the Barkers" where the guy lets their dog eat from his spoon and drink/lick from his bottle of water. This just after the dog shits on the carpet and licks it's own ass. Unsurprisingly, it made me gag.
