mud puppies live in eastern north america. axolotls are confined to a small area in mexico, and are closely related to the tiger salamander. they just don't undergo metamorphosis unless they are injected with iodine.

Axolotl evolves!
Axolotl became adult axolotl

YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO EVOLVE THEM!!!! They get surf unless you're an IDIOT and inject them with iodine, then they can ONLY LEARN IT THROUGH HM.

Damn you /an/ ever since I saw this here a couple of months ago I've really been wanting to get one - but they get big right?
>>61722
I haven't seen eggs - just babies (even saw an image of one per bag - like when getting a gold fish from the pet store)

OMG THEIR FACES :)

seriously they are so boring dont get one, i had one for 3 years before releaseing it into a pond.

They just sit there, dont move ever unless you poke them for feeding time, stink out the tank really quickly.. rubbish

They get about a foot and a half long, I think. I saw one at an aquarium about that size.

I love my axolotl. She's full grown at about a foot long, and contrary to what others have said, her filter keeps her tank quite clean. She eats half an earthworm every other day, and is very easy to care for. Mine has a lot of personality and swims around a lot, but I've seen more sedate axolotls. I think they're great pets - you should be able to order one from a biology supply company or possibly from the large breeding colony at Indiana University.

Forgot to mention - forcing them to metamorphose with iodine or hormones is usually a pretty bad idea. Axolotls are supposed to keep their aquatic body plan for their entire life, and I've never heard of one that was forced to metamorphose living more than a month or two past the process. If you want a terrestrial salamander, get a tiger salamander - it looks very similar, but it metamorphoses naturally.
