Hey /an/

During the spring and summer months the birds and squirrels all like to come around the neighbourhood because we always have bird feeders around and my family likes to throw peanuts to the other animals.

This story is about the two chipmunks, peanut and chippy well I'm just going to call the other one chippy we never really named them both... at first we thought it was only one chipmunk so we called it peanut because it refused to take anything from us besides peanuts, but I knew there had to be two because whenever they came to our back step there would be one with a white nose, and the other just an ordinary brown/tan colour. They lived in our backyard underneath some wood grates beside the shed. We always saw them run back there every time they filled up their cheeks with peanuts. Sometimes we would even break the nuts out of the shell so that they store away more.

Either chipmunk would visit us on the front or back step whenever they heard people outside talking, and sometimes we could look out the door and see them wandering around on our step because we always fed them.

Eventually the one with the brown nose stopped visiting, and none of us knew what happened. Then a couple weeks later the other one disappeared as well. For several months we wondered what happened to them... we figured that one of the neighbourhood cats must have nabbed the dull witted overly trusting chipmunk... that is until today.

I was outside in my backyard looking around in boxes stored away in the shed for anything of value when I decided to have a look behind the shed that was covered in thick vegetation and random shit we packed back there over the years. Then I saw it. There was a bucket leaning against a piece of wood half filled with water, and two chipmunks...

The first thing that came to my mind was oh my fucking god... how could this happen. Stupid fucking chipmunks drowning themselves. I think one might have accidentally drowned and the other killed itself trying to save it or something... and holy fuck did it smell. I had to fight back the tears and nearly threw up when I emptied the water into a secluded area behind some bushes.

Everyone in my family missed having the chipmunks around, including me. Every now and then during the week I'd take some time out to just sit in the back and call the chipmunks with whistles or clicking noises, and they would always come.

Anyway, no one else in my family knows what happened to them, so I decided it would be best if I buried them before anyone else saw their true fate.

Forever shall they rest behind the old shed in the assorted cookie box beneath the pot with 2 fake sunflowers.

RIP Chippy & Peanut

If you want to make a mouse trap, just set up a plank that will tip over a ledge a dump the mouse into a bucket. Fill the bucket with water to drown the mouse, or with anti-freeze to drown the mouse and cut back on the smell and allow the trap to work in the freezing winter, or if the bucket is large enough and won't tip, fill it with nothing and let the mice fight and devour one another.
