Soup /an/, this is my 16-year-old cat Moggie. She's being put to sleep at the vets later today; she's really ill, can't eat/drink, and is pretty much imobile. I'm really going to miss her; she's been my best friend, lol.

Can we have an emo thread where we remember pets that have passed away, pl0x? It may cheer me up. ):

At least you get to say goodbye. As a loving caretaker, one of the kindest things you can do for your pet is give them a peaceful sendoff with you by their side.

I wish I could have done that for Peanut (pic) and Sweet Pea. They were two cats I adopted and they both had FeLV. Peanut passed away in bed with me, while SP bit it while I was out of state training for a job.

Stupid viruses. Be glad Moggie got a decent run and can go with dignity. It's a bummer all the same though.

Good night, sweet princess.

My friend's cat was put down.
It was the first time I got so depressed over someone else's pet, but it turns out I really missed the fact that every single time I visited, she was the cat that sat in my lap.

Such a great lapcat, too. the other cats would claw at you if you weren't giving them enough attention, but see seemed to be perfectly fine to wait while I played video games with my friend.

my first cat was an indoor/outdoor cat, and one morning, he never came home. prevailing theory is that he was eaten by coyotes...

then a few years ago we adopted litter mates. the sister died almost a year ago in a fall. she was kinda skittish on the issue of petting and holding, but she'd demand people come take naps with her and the cat scratch fever. she was a really good cat, i miss her.

we got a kitten to replace her who was just awesome, but she poisoned herself with cleaning solution and died... that was really sad. now my cat is lonely and my mom doesn't want any more pets...

My cat was the same, didn't eat/drink, couldn't really walk. One day she was fine, the next day she was laying around not moving, not eating or drinking, and she was dragging her back legs.
Her name was Samantha, she was 19 years old and she, too, was my bestfriend.

The worst part was we sent her to the vet expecting to get her back at least, and let her die with us here at home, but they refused to give her back to us in her condition.
They called saying her blood test was great and she seems to be in excellent condition, they called again saying they can't get a cavity check because she's biting everyone and struggling to get away to the point her gums turned blue and they had to put her on oxygen, they called again saying she's riddled with arthritis, her lungs and sacs are filled with fluid, she has kidney failure, she has a heart murmur and her thyroid was overgrown and blocking her esophagus.

I left her that day expecting to come back and get her, but the last time I saw her she was on a steel table going crazy and when I even tried to touch her she'd hiss at me and try to bite me as if I were a stranger.

So they put her down that night, around 12AM on a Thursday. It was the first time I've felt real depression in my entire life. I'll still never get used to coming home and thinking she'll be there waiting. When I walk in the back, I still expect to see her laying there on the bed. They sent us her ashes. A month ago I would've never expected to be carrying the love of my life out of a vet in a small box. The week after her death, the vet sent a sorry card in the mail. Inside the card was a small piece of paper that had Samantha's paw printed on it. When my dad saw it it took his breath away. I have 2 kittens now, one that is actually identical to her, and another which looks like her, but has gray instead of black. They're Calicos.

At least this is a place that we can get away from our sick selves, and discuss the love for our past friends.

And this, of course, is my 19 year old Samantha.

I had a cat named Carli for about a year. Sweetest cat ever - she loved everyone and everything. It turned out that she had histoplasmosis the whole time we had her and no one knew, and her last few months were hard, but she was alright.

One night, late at night, she took a turn for the worse. She was wheezing terribly and just seemed to be in horrid shape. We decided that night that if she survived the night she was going to the vet's to be put down (despite the fact that we had already pumped $3000 into the histo treatment). Everyone else in the house couldn't bear to be with her, so I stayed with her the whole night. She finally started having so much trouble breathing that I was considering suffocating her myself to end her misery, but then I just told her that it was okay, and she could go now. She looked up at me with her "adoring" face (the one where she would squint her eyes up and kind of smile), and then stopped breathing in my arms. And then my other cat started yowling immediately.

When I was a kid, I had a bunny that started of tiny buy grew to the size of a small dog. He was awesome and would binky his way over to me when he saw me and sit in my lap and nibble my fingers.
I miss him.

*sigh* I have had cats all my life... since I was a baby my mother says... she also tells me that I had a kitten when I want like 2 and I kill it with hug -______- why the hell didn't she took him away from me?!!! babies should be away from small animals!!!!

Also.. after that, I only had male cats, all of them died (fact: Mexico cares a shit about animals) one of my male cats was either hit by a car of chewed by a dog.. he came back to my house with a horrible face all destroyed, we had to put him to sleep :'(

Then his brother was poisoned 2 years later, I found him after 2 weeks on an abandoned house near mine. And another one had an illness and died at 1 year old.

After that I was pretty much done with cats, but hell i love them that much.. I found a baby stray kitten........... 5 month later he also got poisoned (the neighbor I thought was the responsible for the poisoning on my street move out later on)

Now I have a healthy female cat (fixed) that just stays home or out in the yard (never goes farther that that) and 3 little kittens I rescued from my stupid neighbor (crazy cat lady of my street) that doesn't really care about her animal... but again since this is Mexico, people is absolutely a bitch with animals. So I took the 2 females to my BF house in AZ (i live in the border with the US)and I kept the male, I have a hawk eye on him all the time (also in my older female cat and chihuahua)

OP. believe me, you are lucky to see your pet go in such peacefully way.. while I had to see horrible things. Rest in peace to all of our pets.

Yeah Mexico sucks at animal welfare.. when I went to baja for sum vacations.. it was hell to see all those dogs skinny of ran by cat. Lucky that cat's are hiding most of the time.

Man, I miss my little old shadow
She was my buddy when I about 8 or so, and was an indoor/outdoor cat and one day she just up and disappeared
We found her two weeks later underneath the couch when she started to rot, word is that she died from a heart attack or some such
Now, for the /x/ portion: I later moved into that room and can often feel something at the foot of my bed, and see a grey shape at the edge of my vision a lot

The last memory I have of my dog was when she was vomiting blood. It was the final straw that broke the camel's back and my parents took her to be euthanized. I didn't want to go. I was crying so hard
