Hey /an/, can you identify this? He was flying around the light when I was leaving to pick up some milk and sitting near my door was on my door when I came back. I'm guessing moth, but I never saw one this big before and look at the striping on his back. Have you ever seen this type before?

If it flew around at night, it should be a moth.
Some species of moths fly around at day, but I don't recall butterflies doing the the opposite.

Disregarding that, can't handle pictures with that kind of quality.

No luck so far, are there any type of species that be confused for butterflies? The stripes DID confuse me at first since I never thought a butterfly would be out at night.

its a swallowtail butterfly, a Papilionidae, probably a black swallowtail
