Planet Earth Anonymous
So I just finished watching the last episode of the BBC/Discovery series Planet Earth. It did a great job of showcasing the raw beauty and power of our planet. At times I was laughing hysterically, and other times I found myself choked up, almost in tears.
Anybody have any similar experiences or perhaps a favorite moment or two? My favorite would have to be the ducklings jumping out of the tree with the EPIC classical music playing. Oh and I must not forget the shows opening of the polar bear surfing down the snow.

my favorite is a moment when lions hunted an elephant down, just unbelievable! and sharks hunting for seals were really great. I checked out in local library another dvd-set of movies, narrated by David Attenborough. It's called blue planet. really great shooting and stories too.

I got this Blu-Ray set for my birthday last year. Very, very awesome. I don't think that this year's present will compare at all.

Almost every documentary made in Britain (and the US occasionally) in the last 50 years has been narrated by David Attenborough, haha.

Looking at the whole swarm of cicadas was really something else. Every animal in the forest was taking advantage of a free meal, even birds, turtles, and squirrels. What's more amazing is how they survive by completely outnumbering the rest of the forest, and feed all the creatures by filling them up to the point of not wanting any more. The ones that are left at the end of the feeding frenzy went on to learn how to fly and eventually mate.

I think they almost tried too hard to make it epic. Maybe it was just me but it seemed like it was just all beautiful shots with not as much substance as say Blue Planet.

Still beautiful though.

Substance?

What like a deep emotional backstory with character development as the polar bear battles his drinking problem?

Best documentary ever.
