So I am interested in getting a Maine Coon kitten.

My old cat zoey got knocked up by one a few years ago and had a half Maine Coon kitten that was so cute.

I named him Jing.

A year later he ran away.

I really liked the way he looked though and am interested in getting a Maine Coon.

Can you tell me some things about them?

Oh gawd, this just has to be a troll post.

You'd have to have pretty low standards to troll /an/ by asking about maine coons. Now, if it was about mudkips or sex with sheep...

Look here newfag, the OP mentioned "cat got knocked up" when /an/ HATES cats taht aren't desexed, "cat ran away" when /an/ HATES owners that do that kind of shit, and now OP wants to get a cat he knows zilch about just because he "liked the way he looked".

We have a purebred Maine Coon. He's a year old and 14 pounds. His father was a full 30 pounds, but it apparently takes up to five years for them to fully mature.

He's a stubborn, inquisitive, powerful, altogether remarkable cat -- and it nearly got him killed. A few months ago he snuck out of the house and got hit by a car. He survived despite 8 fractures to his skull and jaw (thanks to thousands of dollars worth of emergency care and surgery) and now he's back to his former rowdy self, less a pair of fangs and his left eye.

Maine Coons are the most hardcore of housecats. I wouldn't advise getting one without a lot of forethought.

People who own stupid cats shouldn't let them outside.

To be fair, my old cat couldn't get fixed. She was beyond runt, and she nearly died just from getting her vaccinations, so we didn't even want to risk getting her fixed.

She was hilarious while she was in heat, though. She tried to get my water glass to fuck her and spilled it all over herself.
>> awesome cat here is what you gotta do:
don't buy a maine coon. buy a bengal.

Yeah. Research them. Learn about the spraying (urine) everywhere, the special diets, the frequent diarrhea, them attacking everything that moves--including you--and I don't mean play-around attacking....

I've had my cat fluffy for about 11 years now. He's almost all maine coon. They are in general a strange breed of cats. They tend to be really loyal but not quite so touchy affectionate *this is a generalization* I think most maine coons tend to have a dog-like attitude.
Anyway they are the shit of cats. They are large and fuzzy and awesome.

This is fluffy I lurv him <3

Don't get a Bengal unless you've researched them. I have one and she was a terror when she was younger. They love to climb and will be into everything. You'll seriously have to Bengal-proof your house..lol In all seriousness I've found that males are a lot more mellow than the females are. The females tend to be a little high strung.

Uh...sorry but the special diets and frequent diarreah is kind of bullshit. Mine has never had any such problems. She's only peed outside her box if the box was really dirty. (she's super picky about her box..it has to stay clean) and when she was younger she had that kitten "omg!attackanythingthatmoves" phase but she's pretty mellow now that she's older.

Here's my lightweight Coon at a mere 12 pounds. Jack is a rescue and apparently atypical, since he's very cuddly and drools all over me when I hold him.

We had a cat that was half Maine Coon. Several of her kittens inherited it to and they were all awesome. Very playful, very silly, but also very sweet. One of her kittens was a complete baby. We got another that seemed to inherit part of the "Maine Coon-ness" from her mother. He was a big loaf, very aloof but funny and very smart. He used to hang out at the end of the block and when he saw us turn the corner in the car he'd follow us down the street all the way home. (he wouldn't follow us IN the street, he'd be running along the houses and across lawns and such).

This is my cat. His name is Mitch. He likes laying on peoples shoes, purses and other assorted things. Maine Coons are really nice cats and they get really really big. The End!

I had a Maine Coon cross when I was younger. Nicest cat I've ever had. Super affectionate, but annoyingly flighty around strangers. The cat did piss on fucking everything though. I don't think that is the breed, more because the cat was very nervous.

I miss him alot.

HOLY SHIT OP ARE YOU MY CLONE? I had a Maine Coone named Zoey a few years ago (looked much like the cat in the mag, slightly darker) who had a litter of halves.

Anyway, as someone who's had Maine Coones most my life, I say go for it. I love the breed. Males tend to be the most affectionate if thats what you're looking for, but for the love of Fuck, neuter them. Girls, even when neutered, are quite outdoorsy and you might now see them for days.

My roommate for a few years had a Maine Coon. I thought he was great. He loved to play fetch with small plastic toys, and was a very talkative cat.

He was incredibly stubborn, though. It was near-impossible to teach him not to destroy the window blinds in the house.

I think that a MC is an excellent choice for anyone who wants a very friendly, outgoing, and playful cat.

My mother had a half Persian half Maine Coon as a kid. He name was Powder. Then she had a mate named Puff and they had a baby that my mom called Footsie because his feet were supposedly huge! She said that they were the best cats she's ever had even though she is allergic to them. She said that since Maine Coons have a fifth digit, they can hold things in their paw like we do with our hands. She said it was fun to feed them grapes. =^.^=

I have a cat that was abandoned at a day or two old who we're pretty sure is a Maine coon. He's about two and a half years old and weighs about eighteen pounds. I think he's still growing.

Pic related.
