Alex Anonymous
Pepperberg, listing Alex's accomplishments in 1999, said he could identify fifty different objects and recognize quantities up to six; that he could distinguish seven colors and five shapes, and understand the concepts of "bigger", "smaller", "same", and "different," and that he was learning "over" and "under". Alex had a vocabulary of about 150 words, but was exceptional in that he appeared to have understanding of what he said. For example, when Alex was shown an object and was asked about its shape, color, or material, he could label it correctly. If asked the difference between two objects, he also answered that, but if there was no difference between the objects, he said “none.” When he was tired of being tested, he would say “I’m gonna go away,” and if the researcher displayed annoyance, Alex tried to diffuse it with the phrase, “I’m sorry.” If he said “Wanna banana”, but was offered a nut instead, he stared in silence, asked for the banana again, or took the nut and threw it at the researcher. When asked questions in the context of research testing, he gave the correct answer approximately 80 percent of the time.

I love shit like this. It's just more ammo for me to use against people who think humans are naturally above or smarter than any animal.

Also elephants!

"With a mass just over 5 kg (11 lb), elephant brains are larger than those of any land animal, and although the largest whales have body masses twentyfold those of a typical elephant, whale brains are barely twice the mass of an elephant's. A wide variety of behaviours, including those associated with grief, making music, art, altruism, allomothering, play, use of tools, compassion and self-awareness evidence a highly intelligent species on par with cetaceans and primates.

The largest areas in elephant brain are those responsible for hearing, smell and movement coordination, and a large portion of the brain has to do with trunk management and sensitivity."

Crows can make tools and use them and teach other crows to do the same.

Crows will also find nuts, drop them in front of cars at a red light, wait for the cars to crush and open the nut, then next red light they'll come down and eat it.

Gotta love the adaptability and intelligence these guys show.

Yeah I think he died about a year ago? Some one feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Dont know about that but, wiki says this: "According to Pepperberg, Alex's loss will not halt the research but will be a large setback. The lab has two other birds, but their skills do not approach Alex's."

inbreeding them is bad. But you probably haven't been made aware of the difference because it's an embarassing subject for your parents.

| is that the one where the crows choose just the right size clams and then fly just the right hight to drop them? Too small clams arent worth it, and too big clams make them fly to high to drop, and often require more dropping? So they have perfected it to the maximum efficiency?

Glad to see the humor and sarcasm was lost on you. I was making fun of Petards who think breeding animals is a sin.
