Sup m/an/handlers

I recently read that if one is going to have two cats then it's a good policy to have three litterboxes for the sake of sanitation and feline sanity.

How does /an/ weigh in?

i have three cats and three litter boxes.

they all insist on using the same one and ignoring the other two even if i use different litters or switch them around. if i take away the one they like, they piss in the corner.

just clean the litter box when you're suppose to and it'll be fine.

I have two average sized cats, and one automatic litterbox. Very clean, and the cats don't mind.

Are the cats related?

That's weird, you must have two laid back cats.

Ma'am, what product and brand of automatic litterbox do you currently employ to manage your feline waste management needs?

I just have the cheapo "LitterSweep Ultra." Works fine for us. Picture very related. However, I hear that the Litter Maid products tend to be a bit better for pickier cats, as they make a larger version as well as the normal size.

On the topic if brands, I also use Scoop Away Multi-Cat formula litter, if that matters to anyone.

One is pretty laid back, the other is nuts. She's like a dog, she needs constant mental stimulation. She's taken well to training (walks on a leash very similarly to a dog, knows sit, "beg," and speak), but need reinforcement.

Cool, thank you. I've never heard of or seen that contraption before... For being a female furry... you're alright.

High five me!

having more than one cat is plain weird

I have two cats, male and female, who use the same litterbox with no trouble. But it's a larger than usual litterbox.

Why?
And having two dogs is normal?

Littermaids are overrated. They clog up if you put anything more than a tiny bit of litter in and end up stinky much faster than any non-mechanical box I've ever used.

Our previous pair of cats (who weren't related to each other) shared a single litterbox for many years. It wasn't until they were about 10 years old that they started obviously disliking that arrangement, so we got a second. We put them right next to each other, and they used one box for pee and the other for crap. It's worked fine ever since, both for them and for our current brother/sister duo.

Added bonus is, if one of the cats gets sick or hurt and only wants to stay in one place, you can move one litterbox there and leave the other in its normal place.

we have an oversized litter box I change very, very, painfully often. I have two cats (sisters) and they don't poo anywhere else. they have a nasty habit of peeing in my dirty laundry basket if I don't leave the lid on

I have two cats and two boxes, they use one as a urinal and the other as a shitter, which amuses me and I havent changed the litter in the crapper since I started the second box, just add some new when I take out the cumps
