So two of my female hissers are officially knocked up. In honor of this, ITT we post cockroaches. Particularly exotic ones. Pic quite related.

BTW, anyone here know how long it is from hissers protruding and rotating the ootheca till nymphs emerge?

That's probably fine, as I'm guessing he's soon going to have more than he'll know what to do with.

I've had hissers for years, and I have no idea. Too many to keep track of lol. The newborns are pretty adept at escaping, make sure your lid is tight.

About how many do you need before you start harvesting them for food?

Right now I have around 70 dubia.

Well so far only my Fire Skinks can eat the full sized adults, but hopefully when the roaches start having babies on a regular basis I can feed them to my other lizards as well.

Well that depends on what animals you are feeding and how many nymphs you have. Let me know and I can help you.

I have maybe a couple dozen nymphs
I want to feed them to a peacock day gecko a jackson's chameleon, two fire skinks, a crocodile skink, and some curly tail lizards.

I keep tarantulas and other invertebrates so I dont have to feed as often. Your pets have spines and consume more. If you have less than 100 dubias now and you say 70 of those are adults? I think you are going to have to either get more dubias or wait a while for the colony to establish. What kind of setup do you have the dubias in ?

Feed your doll to them for good luck

Where did you get your dubias? You know which are male and female right? Try to feed off the males first always even tho you might be tempted to feed females since they seem so juicy and fat.

I got mine from mulberry farms.
Yeah so far I've just fed off the males.

http://blaberus.com/FORMgallery1.htm has 100 mixed sizes for only 30 bucks. He is in the invert hobby so if you ever considered a tarantula he does good discounts on the roaches. Here is one of mine enjoying a nymph.

Also I forgot to ask what temperature you have them at, and if your feeding them enough. Well fed females and something higher than 85 F will give best results. (dont cook the roaches tho lol)
