Cat Drugs. Anonymous
Dear /an/,

I'm trying to feed my cat drugs, but he's rather adept at tongue-ing them out before I can hold his mouth closed. Got any tips? Working solo at the moment and would rather avoid bringing in aid.

pic somewhat related, looks sorta like my cat 'cept his eyes are both yellow.

Buy the suppository version. Let's see that bastard try tonguing when the pill's going in it's ass.

These should come with every prescription.

There's a good idea.

However, if anyone has plans that don't involve more purchases, those would be fine too.

Well, I don't know how ornery your cat is, but what I used to do with my mother's old cat is leg lock his body, hold his neck and squeeze his jaw open, shove the pill into the back of his throat and then hold his mouth shut. It's hard to do, and your cat might try to kill you in the process, but once you get the hang of it, it works like a charm. He has no choice but to swallow it.

I tried the treat thing, he'd manage to eat the treat and spit the pills back out, and he'd never just take them, of course, so I found that rough-housing him was the only way. He'd get pissed off for awhile but then get the hell over it.

If you are trying to give exstacy to your cat, make you dont give it anymore then a quarter tab. If its shrooms like 1-2 shrooms will probably be enough for a good trip for a cat!

Ha, I was hoping someone would pick up on that. I'm giving him flea medication, but worded it so that one might think I meant more illicit substances. :D

powder med, mix into food.

My roommate's retarded cat is all over these things, so they definitely work if nothing else does.

Lock your cat between legs/arms firmly, use one hand to grasp around the head, pull open the mouth (either by jamming your finger between it's teeth or pulling the skin on his chin), insert pill/whatever as deep down as possible, close mouth, rub throat.

Still very hard with some cats but gets the job done. However, since you're treating him for flees, there are much easier options. Especially the spot-on droplets, wich can just be dropped at the cat's neck area. Ask your vet next time, don't believe it differs much in price and is a hell of a lot easier.

Wrap it up in lunch meat if it is in pill form. If it is in liquid form pour some into cat milk. It's like 57 cents for cat milk at the pet store they drink it up like a treat. Hell you can even put the liquid medicine onto canned cat food and they will get it that way too.

Liquid medicine + feed cat a few hours later than normal + mix with soft food

cleaner and easier since the cat is doing all the work

If you don't feel like getting bitten you can put the pill on the end of a straw and then do what the other anons are saying.

Pilchards and tomato sauce. Give it to him/her as a treat, crush the pill up and pop it in there. They smell really strong so the cat wont be put off as much.
