So I've been thinking about getting a dog. I haven't had a dog since I was a kid. I've been thinking about getting a boxer, because I think they are beautiful animals, especially brindle ones. I hear they're great pets too. Loyal and playful. I plan on keeping it inside.

What do you guys think? Or should I maybe consider another breed?

I have a boxer! He is the best dog I ever met. I live in an area where they banned pittbulls though so he often gets confused as one which hurts my feelings a bit. His tail and ears arent cropped and he looks so funny that way. His tail wags around like a helicopter and its all curly.

you shouldn't keep any dog indoors, they need room to run. your dog will probably end up misbehaving out of boredom if it doesn't get enough exercise.

Depends on the breed. Since we're talking really active boxers, yeah it would be cruel to keep him/her cooped up all day.

OP, if you plan on keeping the dog inside, you'd better be prepared to walk it for very long periods each day, you've picked a pretty energetic breed.

So what? You are saying he should keep his dog tied up outside all day as oposed to keeping it inside? Are you retarded?

Dog + inside = does not compute.
Any breed.

Walk the dog.
Daily, cause it needs to.

I think the OP means he intends to keep it an indoor dog, and not an outside dog.
I don't think he means keeping it indoors ALL the time.

No, you dumbass.

We're saying if he wants to keep it inside he should know that he'll have to do a lot of WALKING OUTSIDE.

I disagree Benz guy. Dogs for the most part love being inside with their 'pack'. Much better than keeping it outside where it's by itself all day.

Which isn't to say you should never take it out...

I'm presuming that OP ment that he's going to keep it as an indoor dog, and WILL be taking it for walks outside. So I guess the only question is how mnuch do you have time to activate the dog? Boxer are very very energetic, and need a lot of excercise. But I bet you knew that already, all big dogs need that.

I, too, would have a question about boxers. I've known a few (never owned one, though) and they all got some weird lumps on them when they got older. What are they, and is it really that common on boxers, or did the dogs I knew just have bad luck?

Sorry, I'm not hijacking your thread, maybe this will help you too.

My 12 year-old dalmatian developed those. I was told they were growths and it was one of the reasons why we put her down.

No fucking shit. If you own any dog you have to take it for walks its fucking unsaid and mandatory.

Don't get a boxer, improper breeding means they have all sorts of defects, gammy hips ingrowing eye lashes you name it they moist likely have it, other then that they are nice dogs :)
My next door neighbour had a boxer, and the caretaker at school had two. They all had problems later on in life so expect a large vet bill.

Cancer. All animals develop those as they get old.

I fucking hate that sloping backside the OP's pic has. It just looks so sad. And I hate the fact that these days it's so common on German Shepherds too...

It's just the pose, idiot.

I know that old animals develope cancer as they get old, but often it doesn't look so bad. Those boxers had huge lups hanging from their legs etc.

However, if it is just cancer, is it common in boxers? 'Cause cancer IS more common on other breeds than others.

Most boxers die from neurological illness at the age of 8 or 9, before cancer sets in.

No, you troll. Well, that OP pic *is* a pose, but they really get that, even if not as bad as the pic, but still.
Effing hill-arses.

OP here.

I was actually planning on locking my dog up in the hall closet.

Of course I'm going to walk him. While I do have a backyard, it's very small. Also, I just like having my dog live inside with his family.

Please be careful when buying boxers. Get one from a shelter, if possible.

Most breeders to get the showy boxers end up having the majority of the puppy litter turn out pure white, and those puppies are usually killed due to how deaf they are and undesired by most boxer-enthuisist.

Pop down to your local shelter and see what mixes are available. Pure bred animals can be very expensive - and there are so many homeless mutts out there that are in need of a home.

I don't know much about Boxers, but German Shepherds (provided you find one with a good temperament) are easily one of the best breeds you can own.
