my kitten has a thing against drinking water, but will drink it as soon as its no longer clear or has some colour in it, as i discovered when i added a little juice to his water bowl. i will probably just continue doing this, and i was wondering whether there are any juices i should not be giving him, or that might be unhealthy for him

My cat's the same way. She refused to drink water unless it had algae or dirt in it. The vet suggested she might be missing some key vitamins in her diet, and once that was cleared up, she started drinking plain water. I can tell she doesn't really like it, so on occasion, we give her tuna juice just to make sure she's getting *some* water.

No apple or grape juice. The seeds of both are poisonous (even to humans, but even more so to dogs and cats) and are not removed during the juicing process, so they often get crushed and the poison oils seep into the juice.

Oh shit. I've been grape seeds since god knows how longs. What are the side effects?

keeping a small can of chicken broth poked open in your fridge might be a better idea, so long as you clean and refill the water dish daily. Cats drinking fruit juice is just weeeeird.

i highly doubt they will affect humans, unless you eat them en masse or something. they apparently have more of an effect on cats but lets remember this: its the SEEDS, not the fruit itself.

Have you tried running water? Like a cat fountain? My cats love their cat fountain. See if your cat is interested in water from a sink faucet or something first, maybe?

cats can't taste sweet - it probably doesn't taste different to them.
chicken broth goes bad really fast and cats can't tolerate rotten stuff as well as we do - it'll make them sick.
google grape seeds - are they really poisonous? grape seed oil is supposed to be really good for you.

Good for us, as humans.

Bad for them, as felines.

According to Kittens for Dummies (come on, with a title like that, how could I pass it up?), onions are poisonous to cats. Who knew?

Does your kitten eat dry or canned food? My cat stopped drinking water once she switched to canned food, so I started mixing water into her food on the vet's suggestion. Works like a charm. (She needs a dental check up, though--she's all drooly now that she doesn't have anything keeping her teeth clean or gums strong.)

I know that they have a pet "gravy" that can be put over food, I imagine it would do fine in water. And also cat milk would work.
