I caught this beetle last night, under a streetlight. I thought /an/ would appreciate it.The beetle was released after I took the picture.
>I thought /an/ would appreciate it.You were wrong
>>135735Apparently. We don't quite know what to do unless you:A) Ask what kind of beetle it is, then declare we are wrong after conclusive proof as to the creatures species.B) Comment about a meme or post a macroC) Make some kind of penis jokeD) Ask for name suggestions
Hey shuddup, I appreciate every bug posted.I'd say that's a female stag beetle.I shall name it: "Turd".There, just to follow the rules.
reminds me more of a junebugfemale stagbeetle would be large, and have pinchers at the front....tho it also looks similiar, I think that right there is a junebug.we get alot of them here in LA, near lights at night
>>135775female stag beetle..the heads just... don't match..to well...hmm june bug.. or stag.
It's a scarab. Female. Probably a Heterogomphus rugicollis, a variety of rhinoceros beetles.Attached is a male Heterogomphus rugicollis for reference.
And a female for good measure.
Nice site for photographs, but none of the H. rugicollis.http://www.insectaculture.com/categories.htm
>>135977OP here.I know what june bugs are, and this beetle is definatley NOT one. It is several times larger than any june bug I have ever seen. At least in our area, june bugs are more of a "rust" or orange color. They are also tiny in comparision to this monster! I could fit 3 of our june bugs on that quarter. Notice that the beetle is just as wide as the quarter but about twice as long!
Yup, it's a scarab. It looks kinda like>>136043said.June bugs (technically what we call june bugs around here are May beetles) are definitely not that big.
