Hey, any ideas how to stop my cat from biting me?

It usually happens when I stop stroking her...

So don't stop stroking her!

LOL
I can't stoke her forever!

when she bites you, give her a short sharp shove and a loud aggressive "NO!". When you stop stroking her and she doesn't bite you, give her a treat. It won't take long for her to get the hint.

she has the eyes of sauron! demon kitty!

Mine would claw and bite my arm when I tried to put her down, so a drop in a shallow creek 3 times after she did it, stopped all that nonsense forever and became a sweet kitty

Sauron Cat is not amused by your comparison.

must be nice to have a shallow creek handy. I hate the desert sometimes :(

Where are you stroking her that it doesn't like. My cat used(dead) to be like that. He didn't like to be petted below the neck, especially along his spin. He wasn't always like that I guess it was just because he was old.

Just learn to enjoy the biting.

Likely his joints were arthritic and painful, happens especially around the hips in older cats.

when he bites, put your finger on his tongue and push down just a bit. Do it to yourself to see just how annoying it can be :D
Keep in mind that your goal is not to hurt kitty, merely to make biting an unpleasant experience for him.
Kitty will quickly learn to associate biting to hard with getting his tongue pushed upon. Most cats will let up and let out a small distressed yowl. Ideally, hold a second or two longer than it takes kitty to let go, no longer.
Two or three times should cause kitty to only bite gingerly from now on, to show disapproval.

P.S., refered to kitty as he the whole damn time, and too lazy to change all gender-references to she or her.

kill it with fire.

Just accept the biting, jeez. You're a god damned human who is larger than a cat. A little cortaid and a bandage will make everything right as rain after your cat expresses her love.

Mine bites me when I START to pet him. He hates being touched. But if you get up in his face and stare at him without touching, he purrs. Just don't date touch him.

when she bites you, bite her, show her how it feels

did you remember to stroke them till completion?

because the new bitches always forget to finish the job

purring can also be a sign of fear, your cat hates and fears you.

My cat is sort of wierd about these things. He'll let me pet him, but after a while, grab my hand and start licking it. Then, he starts to bite and suck on my fingertip.

However, when I found him when he was only a few weeks old (he fit easily in the palm of my hand), and the first few days (because our local stores had no kitten nursing bottles and we couldn't find any at the pet store) I had to feed him with my fingertip. He's always sort of bit at the nipples and such afterwards, and he's four months old now (and is getting his manjunk snipped now that we know he's healthy).

He doesn't bite very hard, but he does do it alot, and it's getting rather irritating. Think he'll calm down after he's been fixed?

You people need to beat your pets into shape

smack it on top of the head when it bites you. is this really a hard thing to figure out?
>> Anonymous
don't smack it on the head since it's pretty easy to give a cat brain damage...

however, my cat used to bite me... so, I started to smack him rather hard on his ass (not so hard as to leave a bruise but hard to make him pay attention)... didn't take him long to figure out what would happen if he bit me.

Didn't make him scared of me as I was never mean to him otherwise.

This is a "natural" method, exactly the same which mommycats use on their kittens. If the kitten does something stupid, mommycat smacks him, but the rest of the time mommycat is tender and gentle, letting the kitten know she still loves him. It works basically the same way in all big-brained animals.
