/an/, a problem.

My cat, an indoor cat with garage access, has somehow gotten access to a regular supply of baby rough earth snakes, the longest reaching almost 2/3rds of a foot. He regularly produces a new one, carries it into my room, and plays with it.

The problem here has two roots:
1) I am not always home.
2) My cat doesn't know how to kill snakes like he knows how to kill other animals that he finds in the house.

The result is that my cat spends hours upon hours torturing but not killing baby snakes. I like baby snakes and am also completely okay with my cat killing anything that gets inside the house, as long as he actually kills it in a reasonable manner.

Is there a way to teach my cat how to kill a snake quickly, so that when I am not home to rescue the poor things, at least they don't suffer as much?

Picture unrelated.

BIKECAT is great. I would love to feed him some fish, maybe a pancake too.

As much as this saddens me to say (being a fellow snake-hugger), i don't think there is a way to teach your cat to kill efficiently.

A lot of cats just like to play with their prey. It's for fun, not food.

Either
a: Block off his access to the garage... Bleeding dying baby snakes wandering in your house can't be good, or
b. Locate the snakes and move or protect them from the cat.

The cat's litterbox is in the garage.

I'm pretty sure the snakes aren't native to the garage; they get in under the garage door or something. I've tried blocking access through that, but animals always seem to get in.

The snakes don't tend to bleed. He somehow never breaks the skin on them until they're dead. He's surprisingly good at not making a bloody mess with most animals except skinks.

Just let him have his fun. If it gets into the house then it's fair game. He's a good kitty for bringing the intruders to you and showing you his find before having his way with it.

Make sure you praise him, he's giving you gifts. :3
