Rule I have always heard for raising turtles is the enclosure sould be at least 4 times its length, 4 times its width, but the water should not be much more than 3 times the height of its shell.
You need something it can climb onto to sun bathe, you also need to buy a special sun lamp from the pet store.
If you feed it ANYTHING with fat, it will die, they can't process it. If you want to feed it meat, it has to be raw liver. Most vegetables and fruits are good, see what he prefers.
You only have to feed a turtle on lettuce 99% of the time. Go to a pet store and pick up floating turtle food pellets, as well as dried shrimp. Turtles are fucking nutterbutter for that dried shrimp crap.
Also, before you get attached, make sure you know what species it is!
I bought a "red eared slider" years ago. Turned out to be a florida cooter... which grew to be just over a foot long.
If the turtle gets big, you can build an enclosure out of wood, and line it with the rubber used for outdoor fish ponds.
If you put fish/plants/other turtles in the tank, the turtle will eat it, all of it, they are fuckign pigs. Also, don't put those aquarium rocks int he bottom of the tank, turtles are stupid and will eat them.
