Neko Lala
On a trip to Japan I discovered a placed called "Nekobukuro" The name comes from Ikebukuro where it is located. Anyways it's a cat petting zoo. The cats hate people and run from them but this little one let me get close and even pet her.

A cat petting zoo? Sounds kinda sad, in many ways.

OMG, why didn't anybody tell me?! I nearly died from cat withdrawl when I was in Japan for 6 months. I even went to certain places only to observe stray cats...

But no wonder the cats there hate humans, when random strangers come to grabble them. Kitty needs personal space and the option to approach a person or not.

Wikipedia claims that Nekobukuro admission fee is 600 yens ($6 or something). Sounds quite expensive, if the cats hate customers.

There's a place somewhere in So. California I went to a couple times where they have a bunch of cats that come from very bad houses or off the streets to this nice place. You can adopt them or just come in and pet them. It's really hard to adopt though because they treat them like human adoptions. Living free, I think it was called. The cats were kind of afraid of people, but they came from abusive backgrounds mostly, so it's understandable

Well the cats have to be fed, and other costs.
