DEAR GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE?

I just purchased a Blue Lobster [Cherax quadricarinatus] and introduced it into my community tank...

Now i read that theyre a bit hungry for anything, and have no qualms about devouring anything they find in and around the tank.

The community is mostly Serpae [Hyphessobrycon eques] and Zebras [Brachydanio rerio] but i've got a few Indian loaches [Gyrinocheilus aymonieri] i suspect these will be gonners soon.

He looks so damned kickass though :/

Eat it?

It's only like 2" long, and its not really a lobster its in the crayfish family, so it won't be hueg liek homers pinchy.

Besides the ammount of chemicals in my tank would make anything edible in the tank possibly fatal, or at least give you a good dose of the shits.

Just wondering if anyone in here has any experience keeping these things in community tanks.

Any kind of ground dwelling fish + crab/lobster is a bad idea.
I learned the hard way.

So is a crawdad less aggressive than a lobster?

they may be ok durin the day when the fish are awake swimming around but turn dark these lil yabbies (wat we ozzies call em) will kill em one by one

I always wanted to get one of these when I kept a tank, but could never find any around, so I had to settle for a freshwater crab. Only advice is to make sure your tank is well sealed as crustaceans are pretty well known for trying to escape.

Omg yes! When I was a kid I use to go crawfish fishing (?) in the brook near my home and once I gave like 5 to my aunt who had a huge fishtank. the next morning they were all crawling over the floor with no exception!

its not a blue lobster its a freakin' crayfish. You can find a blue one if you look hard enough in a stream.

its probably gonna die in a month too cause its not getting the prey it would find in a stream. It will have a bad molt then die from disease

Everything survived the night (well cept the furniture) he seems to like rocking out and burning donuts on the front lawn so to speak.

plantlife/gravel 0 crayfish 1

All the other fish seem to be pretty happy though, the Indian Loaches are suspicious however and generaly get out of its way in a pretty big hurry.

The fish in the tank are pretty fast and active (anyone whos ever kept zebras will know just how hyper they get all the time) and the shop i picked the crayfish up from had em in tanks with serpae that all looked fine (no fin tears or signs of struggle)

I doubt it, apparently its a detrivore, and i feed the fish bloodworm and brine shrimp anyway so his diet should be ok, any signs of behavior change though and I'll get some live feeders and remove a couple of fins to make sure he can get em.
