I heard the claim so many times that insect can't get bigger than they do because of their exoskelleton getting to heavy. Arthropleura seems to proove them wrong. It is their inferior respritory system that keeps them small.
I wonder why insects with all their shapes and adaptability never developed advanced lungs.

Because God didn't want a creation that was only intended as flora/fauna to eat his trophy-creation, the humans. Didn't you learn all of this at biblecamp?

one of them lives under your bed and touches your genitals at night when you sleep

Insects are limited in size because they breathe through their skin. As mass (cubed) increases faster than surface area (squared), they can only reach a certain size before they can no longer take in enough oxygen to suport themselves.

Arthropleura lived in the Carboniferous, when oxygen levels were much much higher than today, so insects could grow to enormous sizes. Because there's not as much oxygen around today, we can't get insects that size. Which may be a good thing. Spiders breathe the same way and I don't want to find one the size of a dog on my bath ;0;

Giant centipedes for the scare the shit out of me big time.

Arthropleura may be the only arthropod to have grown near the upper size limit set by the exoskeleton. With enough oxygen an insect or an arachnid might grow to be as big as an average dog, but at lion size it just wouldn't be able to move anymore.

Arthropleura's pretty cool, but I always thought the idea of an eagle-sized dragonfly as being more awesome.
