Tiger Barb Anonymous
This mean son of a bitch is picking on all my other tiger barbs, just yesterday it killed one! Give me some ideas on what to do with it, the fish store won't take it and it's about to get flushed.

Pic not mine, but same species.

you need to keep them in groups of six or more so they don't kill each other

I had five, down to four after yesterday. There's also some danios in the tank but they don't take shit from the barbs (they're bigger). All the others get along fine and school, this one is just an asshole and attacks whenever it sees a back fin.

Take some thread and tie a loop around his tail, and then attach him to something in the tank, or a fishing weight.

Long enough so he can feed, but no longer.

Was thinking about adding more hiding places for the other fish, I have a little cave thing but they're not all that interested in it, just at night. All the crap they sell at stores (castles and such) look dumb and cost so much...

Any ideas what I could use for decorations? Was thinking maybe something glass, as long as it isn't lead painted.

I had a group of 3 tiger barbs.. they got along okay (I had 4 to start with, but then the female... like.. ate it). I'd suggest only having 1 female in the group.. sounds kinda backwards, but I found them to be the most agressive.

Also - breeding grass is a really good hiding place for your other fish. :)

Tried plants, they didn't really give much cover, the angry one is pretty determined. Might need to get a bigger cave thing, I don't have a huge tank but my barbs are only an inch and a half at the most, much smaller than the picture. In the meantime, need to think of some improv shelter since the one pet store around me is terrible and i'll have to order online.

I suggest that you get rid of the agressive fish.(That or you could sneak into the garden of someone you dont like and dump it in his pond.)

Have you used the stress coats/enzymes?

Probably should get rid of him, kill him if he is so bent on killing other fish and the other fish are otherwise all healthy and happy
>> The Red Guy
Okay I looked up on those fishes (I assume its them coz they look 99 procent alike.Huh).

One or two of these species are a real terror - theyre agressive, bite in fins and terrorise smaller fish.Strangely they seem to leave other fish alone if theyre kept with at least 8 others.(pay attention to that) They will use all theyre time to impress the others of their species and such.

You should probably either get more tiger barbs or dump the agressive one.I suggest you just buy more of them because even if you dump Asshole the others will still act ass against other fish.

Hope it helps!

You should probably also put less males then females in (trie five females and 3 males for example)

I agree with removing this fish. Tiger barbs usually get aggressive when they are in school's/groups. You can just get a 1 gallon fish bowl for him. Sit him next to the other fish so he can see them.

The answer to aggression is diffusion, i.e. get more tiger barbs. I've had small schools where one TB gets picked on by the dominant fish. Adding more TBs takes the heat off the lowest ranked fish.

OP

I already have danios in there along with other barbs, with the exception of replacing the recent casualty i'd be overstocking otherwise, don't really have the money for another tank and this is not a species for a bowl. He beat the shit out of another one though so i'm just taking him to the fish store and throwing him in with the others.

Also, the place i'm going is crazy about not taking fish back so this should be pretty funny.

Quoted for truth. I've got a nice 60 gallon tank, with about 12-14 tiger barbs in it, and they mostly keep to themselves.

Update: I killed it.
