Do cats have favorite owners? Anonymous
Greetings /an/ im here just asking a simple question, do cats pick favorites out of their family?
my brother got two kittens awhile back now, a brother and sister and i find the girl seems to come to me more so than anyone else in my house for affection and general petting, its even gotten to the point where she will sit outside my door at night and mew till i let her in dispite every other bedroom being open for her and she quite often will come in to my room whilst im on the pc and mew at me before jumping up onto my desk and snuggling between my keyboard and chest.

i am saddend as i feel she will miss me when i finaly move out. she dosnt hate the other family members she just seems to like me more.

thoughts?

My boyfriend has a cat that completely and utterly adores him in every way. He usually hides when people are around but when he hears my boyfriend he comes trotting out meowing and purring and rubbing all over his face. It's adorable.

OP here, forgot to mention she quite often starts pawing me when shes sitting next to me, i dunno if that has any relevance.

Most animals that live with humans as pets choose one they think is the Alpha Human (i.e. leader).

i dont think she sees me as an alpha i think shes just for some reason decided to bond with me, im probably wrong tho

My cat comes out of my room about 10 minutes before I get home and waits near the door. I know this to be true because of my roommates. She then meows at me like there is no tomorrow and I had better pay attention to her or else.

They say they hardly see hide nor hair of her until I am almost home.

I am also the only one she will sleep with.

i live with my brother and dad, we have 1 cat, it nibbles on my brother and dad, but doesnt me, and doesnt like to be held or even touch for very long by anyone other than me

probably because im the guy who feeds her, but there may be other factors

i have one cat with 3 baby
my cat prefer me than my family, i'm too kind with pet but she haved 3 baby i didn't wanted to be kind with us, because i knowed they will never stay in our house because we have to give these cat to other people we know, i tryed to ignore them but they like me....
(sry for the bad language)

I suppose it could be just because i feed her, but then i feed all 3 of our cats and they dont act the same towards me as she does.

it could be the fact that my brother was the one who took her to the vet to get fixed but im the one who picked her back up an brought her home, could it be that she sees that i rescued her or is that too much of a complex emotion for a cat

Yes, cats tend to bond to people. My fiancee and I own two cats, one likes him better and the other likes me better.

My cat loved me and only me, and hissed whenever someone else went near her, even to feed her. She hadn't been abused or anything, she just didn't like people. And my brother had much the same sort of thing with his cat, only his was psycho and would actually sit behind bushes so it could ambush and attack people. Cats are like any other animal; they have favourite people and people they don't like.

I think so. My cat tends to seek me out all the time and enjoys my company over my parents or my brother. She likes my dad as well, but doesn't actively seek him out like she does me. I don't think it's because of I'm the one that feeds her either, as sometimes my mother will feed her and she dislikes her. She also HATES my brother and will instantly hide every time she hears him come close.

I've also been told that she gets really vocal and upset when I'm gone. I'm at school for a few months at the moment and my parents say that she's howling a lot more than usual and gets really lonely now that I'm not there to keep her company all day.

I miss her. :(
>> A pathetic cat person
Depends on the cat.

But yes most cats will pick a singular person they "favour" and only do certain things with. My cat for instance will only sit on my chest and relax instantly upon me putting her there regardless of circumstance. If anyone else tries this they get clawed and bitten.
