Big Spider Anonymous
I was mowing the backyard this morning and saw this really big spider next to my shed. I have no clue to what kind of spider it is. It is about 3 1/2 to 4 inches from top to bottom with various black and yellow marking on its belly? and grayish spots on the top. The black bulges on its legs are fuzzy or hairy. Its web extends about 3 to 4 feet in a large circle and is kind of double layered. I apologize for the poor quality of the pictures, not really sure how to work my camera that well.

I get these around my house. Pour some of this shit on it.

I spray the walls outside of my house with it every couple of months and it seems to keep them out.

yep, it's a banana spider (also called a golden silk orb-weaver). nasty little fuckers. dont let it bite you. it's known that their venom is just as potent as a black widow's.

Looks like a Nephila, though I can't say which species due to quality lack.
They're not that dangerous, they only build huge webs.

Banana spider =/= Golden Orb Spider

Don't try to scare OP.

Okay, this spider is part of the genus Nephila. Also, they are also commonly called Golden Orb Weavers, Wood Spiders, AND Banana Spiders. Their venom is slightly potent but a healthy adult can usually get over the bite (and its venom) within a day or two. This information is correct.

Phoneutria nigriventer -> Banana spider -> risk of death
Nephila -> Banana spider -> no risk

Trivial names sure are useless these days.

The dangerous Version is @pic.

ah, the good ol' wandering spider. thats a bad mo-fo right there!

natural law of animals = vibrant colors i.e. red, yellow, black = dangerous!

no point in hurting yourself and risking hospital fees, death potential or not.

You get a red bump if bitten, thats it. They look horrendous though, god I fucking hate spiders.

god damn that spider's got some huge biceps

We get these all over my backyard. They're so cool - and super fast, too. Kind of unsettling when you're looking at her really closely and all of a sudden she darts to the other side of her web at a million miles an hour to snatch a bug.

This is the kind of spider your elementary school might have tried to show you.

Back in like third grade, my class would feed these crickets for shits and giggles.
