Just some basics.
Ferns usually grow in relative darkness, shaded by trees etc., so they do not need much light and they can even suffer from direct sunlight. So window facing north might be the best place.
Moisture is important, they grow really well in rooms with higher than usual humidity, for example pool room, bathroom and so on. If you can't keep the plant in room with high humidity, you could try setting the pot on large plate and pouring some water on the plate. You have to raise the pot so that it doesn't absorb the water from the plate so that the water can evaporate in peace. This keeps the air around the plant more moist than most of the room. If you can't use plate, use whatever the thinggy is you can use to spray water, you know the one you pump and water comes out as fine mist.I would start watering by watering it so the dirt is moist when you poke it, and then let the dirt dry so it is dry when touched. If the plant suffers, water it more.
Fertilizing shouldn't be a problem, it might be enough to change the soil once in a year so the plant can absorb whatever it wants from the soil. However, if the plant looks yellowish or starts to display some weird symptoms, you can usually buy plantfertilizers from grocery stores. Use them sparingly at first but increase dosage if the plant seems to be "feeling unwell".
