Second, what appears to be fat is, in fact, a very large cancerous tumour. We thought she was fat too at the time, and vets told us time after time her distended stomach was just fat, her digestion problems were related to the anti-inflammatories she was on for arthritis.
And then... "Oh wow, sorry guys, the reason her stomach is distended is because her liver is full of tumours." We treated her with painkillers, methadone, some other various stuff until her lymph nodes swelled and she couldn't breathe, and she had to be put down at home surrounded by my family.
tl;dr - Vets don't care what's wrong with your best friend.
