I have a 40 gallon aquarium and I want to get some kind of largish fish that I can feed live food. Preferably feeder fish like guppies and molly fry. Does /an/ know anything that will fit the bill.

Fully stocked I was looking at having the larger fish with a bushy nose pleco and a red-tail shark (already have these two). The only think I can think of is a freshwater spiny eel.

Moray eels and puffers are out because they don't do well in freshwater (they are brackish water fish). Most if not all cichlids are out because they need a bigger tank.

Also my internet is gay so I wont be able to reply to this thread so plox and thonx for your help.

South American cichlids wouldn't fit, but African cichlids stay smaller.

Spotted climbing perch (pictured) will eat anything they can fit in their fucking mouths. I think they get like 6-8 inches long.

You mentioned cichlids---

Here are a few combinations that might work well for you:

holy hell these people know what they are talking about!

I was going to suggest Altolamprologus calvus or compressiceps, like the 40 cookie cutter page. They are smexy as hell, every cichlid nut will cream his pants when you mention you have a few pairs, plus every pet store in the world will give you at least $5 each for their babies.
Con: If you don't want to spend a fortune then you have to buy them small...and they grow slow as fuck...but adults do love to eat guppies/fry..thats their niche actually.

Leaf fish/climbing perch: you can find easier/bigger/cheaper, but they are not as sexy

a 40 should also be alright for a bichir since they are not very active, they eat anything.

There are also many south american "pike cichlids" that should do alright in a 40 too, they are kinda "hide and snatch" predators

Bichirs and pike cichlids will eat your red-tail and small plecos

Fuuuuuuuuck, I miss my calvus. He was so awesome. Lost him after a fucking hurricane, though, when the power was down for almost a week. Auuuuuuuuuugh.
