A lot of things go under "makeup", you retards. Topical creams, lotions, bath products, shampoo and conditioner, temporary latex prothestics and contact lens fluids are just a few I can think of off the head.

Also, we've done all that shit testing every single shade of red blue or orange you could possibly spread on an animal. Any makeup that's being tested is likely to be medicated stuff like Head & shoulders or Fongitar or pine tar bath foam to get atopic eczema down.

Yeah, if you can purchase it, its ingredients have been tested on animals at some point. The government mandated this testing at the begining of the century because (surprise!) people were dying and going blind from using unsafe products. That said, I agree that makeup sucks and it would be great if new types weren't constantly invented and in need of safety testing .... but it ain't gonna happen so just deal with it.

Biomedical research, on the other hand, is a much more justifiable use of research animals. Also, science has long since accepted the fact that animals need to be humanely raised and maintained in order to provide accurate data for whatever topic is being explored. Based on years of first hand experiece, I'd say that the Biomedical industry is the most humane-minded of all the animal use industries. Learn about our fabulous organizations ^_^

As for cosmetics, don't we have enough safe materials to make that shit out of already. Just test it with cell cultures or something. People aren't going to die due to lack of 1.5% more effective eye liner or some shit.
>> Mirrored !EhE8ram93U
Acceptable provided it is very unlikely they will get hurt. If it is likely, why bother doing it?

Also, the animals should be in the later stages of life and should have had really good living conditions prior.

Unfortunately, there is always a demand for "thicker lashes", "better coverage", "all day color", etc ....

Reguarding biomedical studies: Any experiment
performed at an institution that recieves government $ (which amounts to every college and university and many private companies) has to be unanimously approved by a committee of scientists, veterinarians, and laypeople representing the interests of the general public. They review the experimental design, make sure anesthetics/analgesics will be used if surgery is part of the experiement, and make sure that all aspects of proper animal husbandry are accounted for. That includes dog walking, monkey toys, cage cleaning, etc.

animal testing is lame. seriously, there are so many more alternatives to it. and most animals aren't even the same genetically as us so these 'scientists' are wasting time, money and lives [o' animals].

Listen up, you underage faggots. You're about to get a lesson in female society. Watch closely, you may just learn something.

Nine times out of ten, women aren't dressing for men. They're dressing for other women.

Yes, that's right, you're not the object of their attention. Live with it. In the company of men social status is determined largely by achievement. In the company of women, achievement generally comes second to looks. A woman is conditioned from the day she is born to be concerned for her looks, that everyone is judging her by her looks. In some professional areas, makeup is considered part of attire; it's one of the many reasons I got the hell out of admin, because the constant pressure on appearances and constant striving for social status was driving me insane. NOT wearing makeup, especially, for example, the higher class of receptionist of secretary, will result in deep shit. Even if one is not expected wear makeup every day it's expected that they wear it on occasion; job interviews, for example, if you're not at least wearing lipstick it's like showing up in a crappy shirt. Even if you're interviewing for 'dirty' jobs and you're expected to spend the day in men's clothing, covered in oil and coal tar (I love the mining industry) if you're in a formal meeting you're expected to dress formally. Formal dress for a woman means makeup and an itchy face.
>> Anonymous
>>312760

Outside of a formal setting, a woman may wear makeup because she genuinely likes doing so (they're out there) or because she's been raised by her mother to believe that a woman is not 'dressed' unless she has foundation on. Even if she goes out with a guy who doesn't care (and most of them don't) she's still going to put on makeup because other women will see her and judge accordingly. Also, there's the whole looks/apperances expectations; in some ways blokes have it easier because they either have it or they don't. Women are supposed to attain it. They're also taught that if they don't have a man, they're not a woman, and if they're not wearing makeup they're not beautiful, and if they're not beautiful they won't get a man.

Shit sucks.

At the end of the day a woman may be wearing for makeup for a man's sake, but statistically speaking, she probably ain't.

That said, there are enough cosmetics out on the market that aren't tested on animals for alternatives to standard types of makeups. Strangely, they tend to be better for your skin.

So does that mean that no guys have anything to say about other guys? Personally I doubt it; I've worked in female-dominated fields and I've worked in male-dominated fields, and believe me, guys gossip way more than girls do. In a male-dominated workplace the grapevine quickly becomes an entire vinyard. The major difference between social hierachy in females is that theirs is often preoccupied with looks; males less so, but even though the hierarchy places less emphasis in looks I've no doubt that it's just as powerful.

You're a dumb under age cow who has never had a full time job.

Listen closely: in many fields of work makeup is considered part of a woman's work uniform. Outside of work then yes, you're right, women should probably wear less of it. And if you're lucky you will land yourself in a profession where it is not required. However, many women do find themselves in this category. Men also do not get off lightly; perfect hair and smooth chins are necessary.

By the way, use of emoticons is a another dead give away regarding your age. I sincerely doubt that you've ever worn any makeup besides basic experimentation with your little girl friends during sleepovers.

>> Anonymous
>>312958

Uh, yes? There is a reason makeup is called "war paint". Certain high-exposure jobs such as airline hostesses are actually given a checklist of what brand and what shade of makeup to use.

In fact, men in highly visible positions wear makeup too. Senator McCain is immaculately powdered to give him that healthy elderly glow instead of a blue-veined, jaundiced look. Offsprings of interracial relationships like Obama often have patches of uneven skin tones. News presenters, talk show hosts, anyone whose face is part of their marketability and public conception wears makeup, man or woman.

Also lol at "stuffing their faces with chemicals". Yeah, because your face isn't made of chemicals, the moisturising lotion isn't made of chemicals, the soap isn't made of chemicals and goshdarnit if those supplements you are taking isn't made of chemicals. Did you not even START high school chemistry or something?

Then that's just another problem we need to get rid of, no? What kind of retarded argument is this? "No, women shouldn't wear less makeup because they're expected to wear makeup".

There is no justifying makeup. You just grew up in a society where its common and you, like too many people, believe the measures of your culture are universal.

If people want to wear makeup then they can have it tested on themselves.
>> Anonymous
>>312974

"there's no justifying makeup" Boo fucking hoo, makeup is the single greatest equaliser for women precisely because makeup is meant to emulate signals of fertility and health. Oh, by the way, this is why men wear makeup too: to show signs of youth, vim and vigour that presents them as alpha males. SHOCK HORROR!

You just happened to grow up in a society where being in denial somehow made you hip. I suggest you go fix up the bigass pole of righteousness shoved up your society's collective asses before acting all holier than thou about other societies.

"If people want to wear makeup, they can test it on themselves." - here's me gleefully wishing rashes and baldness from a defective shampoo batch on you, or permanent blindness from using untested contact lens fluids.

You're the one who's clearly never been out in the workforce. I have a highly paid job at a university. Myself and many of my female coworkers don't wear makeup. It does not factor into our value or desirability as employees in any way.

In some industries, like fashion, and broadcasting/ entertainment, getting all dolled up is important. But for the rest of us, there is no standard requirement for makeup, only a tidy appearance for both men and women. That said, I'm sure there are a lot of women who feel "required" to wear makeup, but it's in their insecure heads. Have a some fucking pride in your natural beauty!

Makeup is useful in two things, dearie. One is the fact that when makeup is applied, everyone falls into a nondescript age that is difficult to tell. You won't be able to descriminate between a 12 year old and a 40 year old.

Secondly, it makes for a great pokerface. Nobody can see you blush, perspire, turn pale, look tired or sick as long as your makeup is immaculately drawn to your face.

Hygiene has nothing to do with the fragrances and hair coatings included in a batch of shampoo.

Hygiene certainly has nothing to do with the idea of keeping your skin looking moist and supple, or even cosmetically making your sclera whiter.

Hygiene certainly has jack all to do with the whitening agents in toothpaste: gum diseases are actually treated with a different salve.

If you were just concerned with hygiene, you should wash your body with dishwashing liquid and medicinal alcohol.

Try Lush's makeup brand B Never 2 Busy to Be Beautiful. They actively search for companies that do not test on animals and if they have a product that contains a chemical like that they drop it until they replace with with an animal friendly one.
