My friend brought a trantula recently for a pet. Out of all the things he could've gotten he choose a fucking spider.

Whenever I go to his house it just sits in its cage and watches me...unmoving, steady...waiting for me to get close enough for it to strike. Sometimes my friend will evn have the thing sitting on his shoulder as he walks around the house.

Anyways, my friend is going out of town for the weekend and wants me to watch his "pet" for him, knowing full well I can't stand spiders that damn big. Little ones don't bother me, the medium sized ones are even okay..it's trantulas that set me off.

.....I'm so very tempted to just shove the thing into the nearest closet and leave it there until my friend gets back but the fear of it escaping and crawling around my house makes me shit brix.

I have to throw a blankt over it's cage before whenever I enter the room with it.

Tarantulas are good escape artists.

Thanks for that, now I probably won't even get to SLEEP with it at my house.

You are fucking cruel, and I love it.

Is picture of said tarantula? Cus' it's kinda pretty.

No, that's just some random tarantula pic I got from Google...the actual spider isn't a red knee, it's one of those big, brown ones, a desert tarantula I think.

It's about the size of a grown man's hand. If I can find my digital camera I'll upload a pic of it sometime later.

To solve that, wrap yourself in ceran wrap!

Hmmm, proofing my bed, I'll have to consider that. Sounds like a good idea though.

I need a way to make sure it doesn't get out of it's cage though. The cage it has opens from the front, meaning it doesn't have to scale any walls or anything to reach the exit. My friend said that it only ever got out once because he didn't shut the cage tight enough, but I'm still cautious.

As I said before, I used to throw a blanket over it if I was in the room with it, but I stopped because I didn't want to smother the thing. I'm thinking about just placing something heavy infront of the door.

Wrap the cage in ce- Yea nevermind. Has it escaped from the cage before? If not, then you don't need to worry.

My friend said it got out once before but he swears that it was because he did't close the door tightly enough.

Although I think he was just saying that so I wouldn't worry.

So you said, I just somehow missed reading it. Because of Parkinsons.

Anyway, place a board or shelf or something longer than the cage in front of the door, covering up the bottom half. Place something heavy on the other side of that board. Problem solved.

Make a wall of fire around it.

Tarantulas are mygalomorphs anyway, not true spiders (araneomorphs). So you shouldnt be afraid of it.

Man, the big ones are fine. That motherfucker isn't going to sneak up on me. It's the little ninja motherfuckers that bother me dropping down out of nowhere and ruining my shit. I could chill with a big ass hairy tarantula motherfucker but anything smaller or deadlier than my hand has to fucking go.

tarantulas are known to jump on your face when provoked.

A tarantula crawled in to my neighbors anus one evening as she slept.

Who cares? It's hairy and has entirely too many legs for my comfort. More than four legs and I'm unnerved..lol

True. I used to work at a petstore and had one jump towards me at feeding time. I almost pissed myself.

Alright, my friend leaves tonight so I'll be spending time with it very soon.

I tried to make myself feel easier around it by trying to pet it as my friend held it. It was a bit jumpy, but otherwise it stayed still and allowed me to get near it....don't think I'm ready to let it crawl on me yet though.

Like someone else already said, it sounds like it's a rose hair, and they're friendly and harmless for the most part.

Seriously, babysitting a tarantula is like babysitting a rock. Have your friend feed it before he goes, and you're fine. These things have slow metabolisms and don't need to eat all that frequently, like snakes. You only have to make sure they're hydrated, and that's easy enough to solve just by making sure whatever it's waterer is full enough.

Sickness and the like, just watch to make sure that its legs don't start curling under, like how regular spiders and insects do when they're dead. And them doing that might just mean they're dehydrated.

You don't have to handle it. (And shouldn't have to, seriously, don't PET a tarantula, their fuzz is their weapon,) And if you're so worked up about it getting loose, just put some strips of tape over the door of the cage until your friend gets back.

There, problems solved. Enjoy your babysitting!

Based on what I've read, you have little to fear from it.

Shove it into the closet?

DO IT FAGGOT

First night went by fine...didn't really interact wih it or anything. My friend did restock him with all the food he needs for the weekend and left him with a fully watered bowl.

I know it's not dangerous or anything, it's just that I've always been uneasy around spiders sinc ea young age. Call it an irrational fear or whatever.

Oh geeze, I just went to go check up on it and it was laying in the corner curled up slightly. I thought it was dead at first, but then I saw it moving a little and realized that it may be moulting.

Is there a way I can confirm this? And if so, do I just leave it be as it goes through with it's buisness?

Tarantulas molt on their backs, and it takes awhile for them to do it. If you see it on it's back, don't touch it or lbow on it or anything as this might cause stress and mess up the process. Just leave it be, don't touch it or anything if you don't want to, it'll be fine when the guy gets back, if not give him $20 bucks to get a new one.

It's me,>>130148again.

Molts don't happen often either, so that's probably not the case. And hey, don't sweat it about being an arachnaphobe either; I'm one too, despite lovin' the guys as pets. It's weird, I know.

But yeah, don't get worried if it doesn't move a whole lot; a tarantula's default setting is 'sleep'. If it's not eating, threading, molting or moving a few inches, it's sleeping. If it REALLY looks like it's curling, try misting it just a little with some water. Or just make sure again that it's got plenty of it in its bowl or whatever.

Good luck on Night 2!
