Are they trying to shoot a bow and arrow at a helicopter?
>> Anonymous
>>255446
yes

>>255447
It has happened before..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sentinelese
>In 2006, Sentinelese archers killed two fishermen who were fishing illegally within range of the island, and drove off the helicopter that was sent to retrieve their bodies with a hail of arrows.[6] To this date, their bodies remain unrecovered.

Horrible movie, but it's like a real life version of Cannibal Holocaust.
>> Anonymous
>>255621

They painted themselves only after the plane first flew over, so it was apparently "FU giant bird" paint.
>> Anonymous
I wonder what they think of the planes and helicopters. Do they think they are big animals, or do they recognise them as things made by other people? Do they think they're gods or spirits, their ancestors maybe? Fuck, they might start doing sacrifices every time someone does a flyby.
>> Anonymous
>>255992
I don't see how they could recognize them as being manmade. All they think man can make are bows and arrows and houses, etc. They must think of them as monsters or demons. I don't think they'd shoot at a god.
>> BitterAnon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
>>255995
What is going on in that inset picture?
>> Anonymous
>>255993
Im not so sure. Although they dont have the same knowledge, they are just as intelligent as anyone else. If they saw an animal they had never seen before, Im sure they would accurately identify it as an animal. People are very good at recognising general characteristics and applying them to new things.
>> Anonymous
>>255998
I think you'll find it was reposted childish bullshit from /b/ invading a sensible thread in /an/.
>> BitterAnon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
>>256000
Well, of course, but I am still curious as to what the hell was going on there.

>>255999
Most likely they see it as some kind of large predatory bird. In some of the shots you can kinda make out people cowering in/next to the huts. They must have been terrified, and I'm sure the ones that shot at or at least aimed their bows are now heroes for chasing off the helicopter.
>> Anonymous
>>255993
Some ancient tribes kill their gods so they can prove their godliness by ressurecting themselves in ritual ceremonies.
>> Anonymous
>>256003
I can understand a plane at a distance being mistaken for a bird, but at this close range? Although they dont know about planes, they have an incredibly detailed knowledge of the natural history of their forest. They know all the birds, and more importantly, they know what makes them birds and not monkeys or trees or huts. I think it would be clear to them that whatever it is belongs in a different category.
>> Anonymous
>>255999
I honestly don't think you could see it from that point of view. I mean, they've never, ever encountered anything like that - huge, bigger than any animal they've ever seen. How could that be in their grasp, that there are people who can work metal into machines? Do they even have metal?

There are characteristics of, say, a helicopter, that could be compared to an animal. The rotors are not unlike the beating wings of an insect. The cockpit glass could look like a single huge eye, and so on.

many interesting links on that page...

"Berinmo, a stone-age tribe in New Guinea, does not put a linguistic boundary between blue and green but does have a boundary between "nol" and "wor" within what we would call green. Research by Jules Davidoff, Ian Davies and Debi Roberson showed that the Berinmo categorise blue and green together but nol and wor separately, whereas we do the opposite - see blue and green as separate colours, but nol and wor as variants of the same colour."

Also I find it absolutely amazing that in this day and age there are still whole tribes of people undiscovered and untainted from the rest of the world. I know how self-centered it is to think "lol humans know everything amirite" but considering the available surveillance technology...Geez.

Really makes you think about how much we don't know about the planet, and, sorry for sounding like an elementary school science teacher, but about all of the different species we don't know about yet either. If we don't even know where all of the HUMAN tribes are, well...

They probably know that there is a modern civilization out there and they are trying to defend themselves from intruding outsiders from making contact with them to prevent foreign disease from ravaging them. Previous discoveries of unknown tribes in Brazil have resulted in mass deaths to things like the common cold from outsiders. Word must have spread throughout the different tribes about modern peoples bringing in disease so they will probably be hostile to any outsiders to protect themselves.
>> Anonymous
i sould soo go there and trick some women to sex

It wasn't really a discovery they knew the tribe existed for over 20 years these are just the first pictures of them.

Protip: those guys have balls.

Huge flying monster comes at them in broad daylight (if they think it's an animal, they probably think it's a giant insect from hell). They could just silently disappear in the jungle, but instead they stand there and fire arrows. It's hard to imagine a similar situation for ourselves, but still; how many of us would make our stand and try to fight in such a case?
>> Anonymous

Same thing I thought. The woman and children ran into the jungle and the men put on their war paint and were in battle mood. Very impressive.
