my dog has developed a pretty nasty hot spot by his tail. i have been putting tea tree oil and hydrogen peroxide on it but it doesn't seem to be getting better. it's about 3 by 5 inches and he has had symptoms since last thursday. he has chewed and it's oozing.

are there any other methods to treating hot spots or is veterinary care needed?

Tea tree oil is an irritant and a toxin. Peroxide destroys healthy tissue as well as bad.

Vet care is needed, not only for the proper ointments and treatments, but to determine the cause of the hot spot... which is often a food allergy.

AAAARRHRRUGHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
hot spots are so incredibly awful looking. I had a dog who had one, fuck. Even with care it took a long-ass time for it to heal and the fur to grow back.

Uh yeah dude, if this is a ral post, your dog needs to GO TO A VET RIGHT AWAY! Do not put any more peroxide on it, that hurts and stops it from healing, the dog needs vet care and antibiotics with a cone to stop chewing / licking which will also stop it from healing.. A dog in this condition that hasnt been to a vet can be taken from you by law, just so you know!! You have to go to vet..

if your dog has long fur, trim the fur in the area around the hot spot and take your dog to the vet.
