Goby is eating my fishes. Anonymous
Ok, I THINK I have a Dragon Goby (It sure looks like one from what the internet has said.) Unfortunately, my Mom also bought 5 Neons, 3 Guppies, 2 Platies, 2 Catfish, and an Algae eater.

Currently, all the Neons and one guppy is food, we suspect dragonfood.

So, after the neons, we got some frozen blood worms for him, thaw them out, and feed. unfortunately, he is a lazy bastard, and the catfish ate all his food.

the next day the guppy was gone.

Apparently he ate some today, so hopefully we won't find a missing fish. However, what can I do to make sure he gets his food, and if it's not a purple goby, what is it? They told me it would be fine in freshwater, and the dragon is brackish. Will it still live well? Could it be a freshwater goby that looks similar?

DO IT FOR SCIENCE.

... no, seriously, don't.
You'll eventually need a separate setup for the Goby too, unless you plan to own a pond. -_-;

Don't be a retard. They get big, but not THAT big.

Actually, I checked up on Dragons, they only get a foot long but he could easily have a setup with catfishes and a Goby. The Goby is a bottom-feeder while the catfishes are mid-level - top-level swimmers, they should do fine with enough room for territory as well as some good hiding spots.

For one example, I have a 5" Rocket Gar (Surface dweller) in a tank with some Bichirs and (up until today) a catfish, (which are all mainly bottom feeders.). The Gar doesn't even bother the Bichirs nor did he even notice the catfish as well as vice versa. At most the fish just move out of each other's way and keep swimming.

well, unless OP wishes to get a fairly large tank, we will eventually see some interesting goby v catfish incidents.

No they won't. They occupy different levels of the tank, and dragon gobies are fairly non-aggressive.

DG is an opportunist hunter - if it sees an easy prey it will try to eat it. So one morning Op will wake up to find a happy dg and missing catfish.
Anyway op, what your catfish looks like? How big is it? What colour and body form?

oh jesus

you started with a new tank, and immediately put all those fish in it?
holy fuck you dont know what you are doing
that should be animal abuse, and I hate peta and animal fags

learn how to set up an aquarium
shit like aging the water with shit fish so it sets up the right biological filters

Unless the catfish are already fairly large, the goby WILL strike when the opportunity rises. Sure, it doesn't pick fights, but it does like eating live fish.

I'd say their about the same volume. Goby is slightly longer, Catfish is slightly wider.

No, for a while it was just the gupies and the platies. then the algae eater, then the catfish, goby, an neons. Also, one of the platies committed suicide. Also, you don't know what size the Aquarium is...

They are her fish. I'm just doing research so she doesn't make the same mistake again.

Dragon gobies have terrible eyesight. I had one in my tank for five years, and he never ate any of my fish. I had to feed him using a skewer (wooden one, as used with shish ka bobs) and cubes of brine shrimp. I'd put it directly in front of his mouth and he'd pick up the scent and chomp on it. Once I figured he had his fill, I'd let the rest of the tank mow down on it.

tl;dr feed him by shoving cubes of shrimp in his face cause he might as well be blind

That kind of aggressive behavior isn't very typical for a Dragon Goby

Sounds more like a Velociraptor to me

Naw Dragon Gobys are mostly peaceful fish, they won't bother other fish at all. They'd rather keep to themselves and hide.

That large mouth makes them seem like a horrible predator but as I stated before, they're like basking sharks they only use those huge mouths to gulp the water and take nutrients and bacteria out of it to feed on. They don't have big enough digestive systems to take in a whole catfish.

Besides they'd rather have shrimp pellets and what not especially at that size.
