At some point, I'd like to get a corgi. I heard that they're incredibly loud though. What else should I know about them?
>> Anonymous
They get Rücken.
>> Anonymous
Name him Ein.
>> Anonymous
Ein was a corgi in the anime called Cowboy Bebop. In this anime, he was a data dog. He also was a genius hacker.

Ed... was the hacker. Ein was just the dog. He could play chess though!

wrong. there's an ep where Ein hacks even faster than ed. let us not weeabo this. for you will lose. hard.

OP was asking about corgi advice. He wasn't asking two losers to argue about an anime in his thread.

Getting on topic, you should train them from early on not to nip at people. As herd dogs they get tempted to nip at peoples' heels, or can otherwise get overly playful and play-bite. They're very energetic so make sure they get plenty of walks. Also, their shape tends to lead to back problems later on... ask for tips on how to minimise this earlier in life.
>> Anonymous
So back to my question.
>> Anonymous
>>176983
Well they're a hearding breed, That means lots of energy and lots of intellegence that needs to be catered to. It will need sevral hours of rigerous excersize every day.

Do you know what to look for in a *good breeder*?

to OP:

corgi's are wonderful dogs to the owner, but tend to be moody and snappy towards other people if they're not properly socialized and trained. if or when you get a corgi, make sure you have plenty to time to spend training and getting it used to other people and animals so that it doesn't end up being an asshole.

same goes for mos breeds really....

I remember that ep. Ein was tilting his little corgi head with the VR goggles. It was adorable!

I played with a corgi puppy once. He wasn't very cuddly though. Didn't want to be petted just wanted to play.

i'm moving out of my parents house and want to get a corgi as well. but the apartments i'm moving into doesnt allow loud dogs, is there any way to train them not to bark a lot? Also, do they shed a whole lot? could i find a mixed breed with shorter hair than a normal corgi?
>> Anonymous

No. Do not get a dog.

Just because the one in the animu was a genius doesn't mean small dogs all have that same personality. They are actually kind of annoying and loud.

You, sir or madam, are an /an/ hero and a friend to corgis everywhere.

OP, listen to this person. I grew up with family corgis and shelties...if you live in an apartment, herding dogs will be unmanageable. They like to work, and they quite often need open spaces in which to do that. Unless you live in an apartment and join an agility or flyball club that meets every other day, choose a different breed, such as a miniature poodle or pekingnese.

But, ultimately, I suggest you get a goldfish. That way, it will certainly go unnoticed...and if it dies, who cares since it only cost $5 and there's a million more as Petsmart. OP, you need to start small and then move on to bigger things when you're ready.

>>177515
trendy? how is having a corgi fucking trendy? if you're talking about that weeaboo shit, i never watched that. i love how they look. i can't be picky with where i live with the amount of money i have. i wanted a dog as active as i am, i'm almost always outside. I asked for some advice and you have to act like elitist kids.
>> Anonymous
>>177555
and as for the unnoticed part, how can you even make a judgment like that? I've given the utmost attention and care to all the animals i've had. But i will take your advice and look into some calmer dogs if getting a corgi is absolutely out of the question.

>>177573

Stop being defensive and pigheaded long enough to realize that /an/ is trying to save you the heartache of choosing a pet not suited to your living conditions.

Way to go, Anon. Way to take a nice, generous gift and trample it to shit.
>> Anonymous
>>177575
there's tons of sites that say a lot of corgi's are pretty manageable with apartment life as long as they get a lot of exercise, and from what OP has said, it seems like he's out a lot so if he gets a corgi he should do well. And from personal experience corgi's dont bark much after a lot of exercise and attention. You all need to do your research and you need stop from trying to keep someone from getting a pet they want, especially if he's willing to do what it takes to keep it happy.
>> Anonymous
>>177577

But why should the OP get a corgi based on the premise that he is active now? Shit happens. What if he broke his leg or got hit by a car? Then his active life goes out the window and the dog goes insane. And as the OP has mentioned before, he wants a dog that will not be loud and draw attention--believe it or not, corgis still bark even after they've had their exercise. They're vocal, playful, and always expressive, all traits that make corgis the awesome herding dogs they are. But maybe not so awesome in an apartment building.

Believe it or not, some of us do have the OP's best interests at heart. Take it from someone with experience getting the wrong dog for your lifestyle (ie: me)--you absolutely regret it, every day.
>> Anonymous
>>177580
now you're just getting further away from the topic, we could keep going on, saying how it's less likely for a healthy active person to break a bone and shit like that. just because you fucked up doesnt mean OP will, and if he does, people with half a brain learn from their mistakes. Hopefully the dog will be put up for adoption if something horribly bad does happen, and be taken in by someone who can take care of it fully. Also, not all dogs are the same, even in the same breed.
>> tigerfeather !CrwtTbFNxQ
>>177582
You DO know that the number one reason for dogs being placed in shelters are behavior problems, right? And you do know that, in some areas of the United States, that upwards of 80% of all animals surrendered are euthanized. You DO know that, right?

Corgis are quite cute herding dogs. My x just purchased one from a breeder. She doesn't bark unless really excited, but never EVER runs out of energy. Needs lots of space and stimuli.

While getting from a breeder is a good way to guarantee health and whatnot, adopting an already-desparate animal should be priority. Check out corgi rescue and adoption websites.
Try looking up the Valhund - its ancient predecessor.

Pic is of the Queens' corgi herd.

It's BECAUSE they've done their research that they're giving this advice. Either that, or they just happen to be right. If OP or anyone else is going to put their fingers in their ears and sing just because the advice isn't what they want to hear, the poor dog is fucked from the start.

As one of the only Valhund owners in the US, I gotta warn you: They are they are like ultra-corgis. If you can't handle a corgi, you REALLY won't be able to handle a Valhund. They're really fun and loyal and smart and all that, but unlike corgis, their urge to nip NEVER goes away. It can subside as it get older, but they'll still do it. They're even more hyper, territorial, and noisy.
