It depends... If you are going to get cold-water fishes, just plain "cold" tap water is fine (you could get some tap water to your nearest aqua-store and let them test it). If your going to get warm-water fish, you do the same like with cold-water fish but you have to buy a device wich warms the water + a thermometer to check the temperature. Lastly, if your going to buy sea-water fish, thats a whole other thing... You have to buy special pumps, machines, etc... to extract different kinds of filth/nutrients out of the water that aren't good for sea-water fishes (and other sea-creatures), and it requires "a lot" of maintenance (I know 'cause I own one)...
