Feather Blackening Anonymous
Hey /an/, first time poster here. Currently, I am at college but at home I have a very cute Green cheek named Pipen. Pipen is about 4, and she has always had some blackened plumage. But lately when I visit home it has been getting worse. What causes it? My parents both work full time and get home late and I think this may be part of it.

tl;dr: what causes feather blackening

Feather blackening is usually caused by some sort of diet imbalance, usually vitamin A deficiency, too much fat in the diet, or (in rarer cases) stress.

The causes of feather blackening differ between parrots.

Well, if that's a recent photo of your parrot, and it is a green-cheeked conure, it's normal for hte head except for the cheeks to be pretty much black.

Well, let's just say that Bald Eagles don't get their white head and tail until they're 5 years old.

Perhaps your birds plumage changes with its age as it matures?
