/an/ i have a fish question. i have a tank with guppies, kuhli loaches, otos, and a glass fish. their diet consists of tropical flake food, freeze dried blood worms, and algae chips. i recently got a dwarf puffer, and due to his picky eating habits had to get frozen brine shrimp. my other fish have since ceased eating their regular food (tho the otos still eat the algae chips) and just eat the brine shrimp. is this an okay diet for them?

OP here, also thought i'd mention that i put in the flake food before the shrimp at feeding time to encourage them to eat that (initially cuz i'm cheap) but they have caught on and now just ignore the flakes and wait for the shrimp. same for the blood worms. they used to be very excited about the flakes and worms. i can be un-cheap and just feed brine shrimp, but is that nutritionally okay?

Going to an entirely frozen/fresh diet should be okay. Brine shrimp and blood worms are great. Sally's San Francisco Bay makes a great freshwater variety pack with uh, what was it.. brine shrimp, blood worms, a cichlid mix with beef heart and a lot of other meaty things, and a greenstuff blend with romaine lettuce, carrots, etc. And in my experience otos (otocinclus right? been out of the trade for a while :T) loooooved things like fresh slices of zucchini or romaine lettuce leaves. Some of your other fish would probably nibble at that, too.

I had the same problem, but with frozen bloodworms bought for a pair of rams.

What I did was feed them flakes in the morning, and the frozen stuff in the evening. When they caught on that flakes =/= bloodworms right after, their hunger won out and they began to take the flake foods (except the two rams that I had to buy frozen food for). Also, there is about an 8 hour gap between feedings, so they get pretty hungry.

Your fish know best what they want to eat.
However, from time to time I would try to add something else, maybe they will like other food again after some time.

OP here, sounds good. i shall look for that next time i'm in a pet store.
