do any of you have house cats that actually like being in water?

and no, no wild cats.

My cat likes to take baths.

Yeah, it depends on the cat. I've heard Turkish Van cats all love water and some completely ordinary moggies do to.

Except without the silly macro.

I once had a black cat that would run outside in the rain and swim in the giant bog that forms in my front yard sometimes.

ii have 9 cats and 4 of them love water. i can usually find them hanging out in the shower or the sink just waiting for a faucet to turn on.

I've got a domestic longhair tuxedo cat who fucking -loves- water. To the point where she will whine and scream if she's locked out of the bathroom while someone is bathing. She's also hell on wheels while we're cleaning the fishtank.

"oh boy, a bucket full of fish poo! This is the best place for me to sit right now!"

The cat's like "OMGOMGWTFLOL"

it all depends on the cats origin.
a cat with ancestors in egypt for example don't have an instinct to keep dry, being wet won't hurt them.
however, cats who originate from a colder climate will think in terms of "wet = OMG it's winter I will freeze to death"

Also there's the fact that a lot of cats (of european lineage apparently) have difficulty getting their hair dry again after getting it wet. In the nature this means that being wet may lead to hypothermia and death. Since it's mostly coldness-related, more cats will accept warm water than cold.

I have a cat who ran through a pan of oil, soaking all four legs. I thought for sure it would freak out when I caught it and washed it, but it just sat there in the water, purring.

Coolest cat ever.

Actually, that could be shock. When cats get very very stressed, they sometimes purr to calm themselves down. I caught a half wild kitten and held him under the tap to wash him, and he also purred the whole time, being sick and afraid.

Well, whatever it was, I preferred his tranquility to the alternative.
