Bunting Anonymous
What does this mean? I've got two cats.. both of them were feral kittens.

One likes to hobble over and bunt me with her head and nestle in my goatee, the other one seems to have this ADD tendancy where if you raise your hand about head level she'll rush over and rub herself against it forever. You dont even need to pet her, she does it herself.

Pic related. Its the bunting cat.

Someone is bound to say they were weaned too early - this is just one of the many personalities/quirks of cats, usually females.

Yeah. They're both females.. and they both have their odd quirks but thats part of their personalities.

We found them outside on our porch awhile back. The mother was pretty skinny and looked about half dead but we couldnt catch her nor would she eat. The mother ended up dissapearing leaving us with 3 kittens. We acclimated them to people and they all ended up immensely friendly and loving. The male ended up running off outside one day (We let them out to wander and they'd always come back) but we think he was eaten by something bigger as we live in the woods.

It's an affectionate gesture. Return it by nuzzling them under their cheeks.

Also, they have scent glands behind their ears.

As other anons have mentioned, it is a bonding behavior. It is not because they were taken too early or just because they are female.

Forehead-rubbing is roughly equal to a "knuckle pound" between humans. It's like saying "Sup, buddy!". It's a greeting that shows affection. Watch any discovery channel show about lions and you will see it numerous times.

The rubbing repeatedly is more of a marking and affection act than greeting. Its like a good cuddle or hugging for humans. As anon mentioned, cat's heads have numerous scent glands, and by rubbing her head around on your hand, she is not only affirming her affection for her (and your tolerance says you like her too) but she is making sure any other cat you pet knows you are her best friend.
