Bedbugs! Anonymous
So, I just found a bunch of bedbugs living in the crack between my carpet and my wall. I squished about 15 of them (they are really spread out) and now I am boiling water and pouring into the crack all around my room. Great idea or greatest idea?

I didn't get bitten at all, I think they are living off my rat and my girl friend, she spent the night for the first time a couple days ago and got a "spider" bite on her ankle. It definitely fits the bill for bedbug bite.

I doubt you'll boil em all.
There might be eggs hidden somewhere and after some weeks you have a new infestation.
Better get a professional.

I don't like the sound ($) of hiring a professional. It seems like a tiny infestation, I think first thing tomorrow I am going to vaccuum like crazy any nook or cranny in my bedroom. Maybe I can get my apartment complex to take care of this, I just moved in a few weeks ago. gah.

in before landlord banging on the door because the neighbor downstairs was complaining about water leaking down the edges of the ceiling

you definitely need a professional, and don't expect it to be a simple spray and leave kind of deal. Expect a very thorough hunt, including various pieces of furniture being turned over and shelves/drawers removed to find any other nesting places. On the plus side, depending where you live a lot of the time landlords are legally responsible for pest control issues, so contact your landlord before you go to the professional solution, this way you don't just spring some random bill on them. They might have a deal with a certain pest control company that they can call on.
>> OP
I found a grand total of 4 more in the past few days. I turned my room upside down hunting for them. I vacuum everyday now and I am pretty sure this was a light problem. No more have shown up, but I could be completely wrong, we shall see.

what about some insecticid dirrectly in the cracks, or fill the cracks with some cement? They can't dig you know.

It takes some days until the eggs hatch.
They can lurk for up to two weeks before hatching.
So, even if you caught all adults now, you might have them back in a week or two.
Check as often as you can.
Of course you checked your matress?

BTW.: They can transmit Hepatitis B.

I had a bug problem once. Then I got a black widow problem. Then the black widows ate all the bugs. Then the black widows died because they ate all the bugs.
>> OP
I am making sure to vacuum and check daily. I found 3 of the last mentioned 4 in a seam on my box spring. I am being very vigilant. I am pretty sure this is a small problem that doesn't need any drastic action. I hope. ¯\(0_°)/¯

This thread grosses me out every time I come across it. And c'mon, the general rule for bugs (or any type of infestation) is that for every one bug you see, there's more you don't and even more still waiting to hatch.

They're not cockroaches or silverfish for chrissake. They're blood sucking parasites. And we're not talking fleas; they hide in your bedding/furniture and feast on YOU.

OP, just grow a pair and call a professional or at least bomb the place yourself. If you choose not to, then I sincerely feel bad for anybody you bring in there.

This is the correct answer. Centipedes will find them no matter where they hide.
