Dear /an/
My 6 month old kitten is extremely sick, and I think she has symptons of "cat flu" as seen here : http://www.catsofaustralia.com/cat-flu.htm

I really really want to help her, I've kept her warm and comfortable, and I've tried getting her to eat (light shavings of pork) although I'm sure it's not the best thing for her, it's all I can figure giving her because she won't go near dry food, and kitten wet food would be too harsh on her stomach.

She looks miserable, and looks like she's losing weight very fast. Please help me /an/ give me suggestions on how to help her. I unfortunately don't have the money for a vet, and she's a really close friend..

If she has a flu then she will definitely need an antibiotic to fight it off. Go to a animal shelter and ask for advice or even go to the vet and just talk to someone. You might be able to buy the antibiotic itself without an exam, but I'm not sure.

You could also just crush her dry food up with a little bit of water to make it a paste and feed that to her with the syringe. However, that only might get her to eat and not cure her.

Seriously, if you talk to the vet you should be able to work out something with payment, either delayed or in installments. Also if you spent so much over christmas that you can't afford to look after your pet, you're irresponsible.

OP Here. Good news. She just woke up, and she's a bit more alert, which I consider a good sign, she's got a runny nose, which I also see as good, because the build up is being let out of her system. I unfortunately had to somewhat force feed her, but she just ate a little bit of the shredded pork, and she's currently next to me drinking... so... she looks, and seems a bit better.

I called a vet, and they said what I'm currently doing is the best thing for her, and that I can buy the antibiotic without having to have her go in. They said it does sound like the flu, or at least a minor case of it.

I have the money, I just wasn't sure if it was going to be a gigantic bill if she was going to have to be there for a couple of days or not... If your like me, and your a single college student, and a big triple digit bill comes in, it's kind of hard... Once again, thanks for making me feel like an ass :D

Thank you all for your help, for anyone that cares, I'll keep you posted..

My cat's been eating leftover Christmas ham for the past few days. She's fine.

I'm not the OP, by the way.

Sorry, but this quote "Pork (according to the vet) will not hurt her. If anything, it's good, because it has a natural salt, and it will make her want to drink, which is what we want in this case." AND THIS QUOTE "kitten wet food would be too harsh on her stomach." are fucking hilarious... where did your vet go to school!?

As a veterinary technician, I'll tell you this... SOME animals can handle the pork okay, but it can definitely cause pancreatitis which is worse than "cat flu".

HOWEVER, if it IS cat flu, that would a virus and she'd just have to get over it, but she might need supportive care, such as fluids, etc. But antibiotics only kill bacteria, not viruses.

Also, if you have the money, take her in to the damn vet, what the fuck is wrong with people asking online for how to help a fucking cat that is extremely sick. JESUS... it's like posting a question online to ask if my baby should be taken to the ER b/c he's turning blue and waiting for replies before doing something.

UGH. Ass.
