What's the best way to clean the crud off my dog's eyes? She's a little schnauzer and has long fur around her eyes that gets discolored. I've been using a warm, damp washcloth, but... is there a better way?

You can buy at pet stores this solution called "Diamond Eyes" which you put onto some tissue and wipe which I usually reccomend, if you can't get that, try boiled salt water.

Wee - thank you.
Diamond Eyes - sounds so shiny.

Also recommend hot/warm salt water with a flea comb to comb through the hair and pull the crap off.

Go to vet to get tested for allergies.

My cat had a minor scratch on his eye a while back and the vet gave us some prescription gel stuff in a tube to put on it (dont know the name), worked well and the cat is now better.

Now I think my rat has hurt his eye, can't open it as well as the other and has crusty gunk around it. Would it be safe to use the gel stuff on my rat?

my guinea pig sneezed when i first got him in april but it stopped in the summer. Now that my seasonal allergies are coming around my guinea pig sometimes sneezes when i come home. He doesn't exhibit any other symptoms of being sick but the sneezing/whiping his nose and he only does that when i come home from outside. Does this mean my guinea pig might be allergic to pollen or some other substance thats on my person when i come home and say hi to the little guy?

Do they teach all vet students how to diagnose and operate on domestic rodents such as rats, or does that require specialization?

Should animal lovers become vets or vets' assistants?

Other vet student here lols. Will try to answer some stuff.

Can't say for sure, if you'd have the brand name I might be able to look it up for you. I'd say contact your veterinarian before trying it. I believe most eye ointments are relatively safe but better be sure.

I'm a vet student in the Netherlands, and as far as I know/experienced we only get the basics taught about those kinds of (rare) animals. This means that you should be able to diagnose (and treat) the more common forms of disease/problems. Operations are somewhat limited, really depending on what needs to happen. You can ofcourse specialize in this area, but it isn't 'required' for everyday veterinary practice.

Probably vets, at least I think you'll get a lot more satisfaction from being an actual vet.

Hey.

I put my penis inside my dog's anus and now it keeps biting me. What do i do?

Muzzle it and lube up next time. Your penis may be small but that doesn't mean you can just fuck your chihuahua you silly anon.

What all can you do with a veterinary degree besides being a regular veterinarian?
>> Anonymous
>>303423
Depending on which courses you take while graduating, you can do jobs related to general health departments, food control, medicine developement, stuff like that. You could ofcourse go into teaching or something as well.

Probably forgetting some stuff, it's quite a bit more diverse than just healing animals.

This abandoned baby mouse I picked up on my way home is twitching and it has some kind of crusty shit on it's crotch/umbilical cord thing. It's kinda twitchy. Is it gunna die? I managed to get it to poop yellow. I fed it some diluted esbilac puppy formula but I'm unsure how much to give it.

My cat has ear mites and they gave me ear drops but I lost them. My boyfriend's mom said that I should be cleaning them out with oil and q-tips(I typed toothpicks first, lol). I'm wondering if this is safe and will it work?
>> Anonymous
>>303466
Q-tips are not really advised, cause you risk pushing gunk further inwards, clogging the ear up. You can use it to clean the outer ear, but I doubt you'll get the mites to vanish this way. Really you should go get some new stuff.

If it's still to young and abonded by it's mother it's going to be hard to keep it alive.. Don't know enough about mice to really help you but this may be usefull:
