dear /an/,

my roommate and I recently purchased a rabbit. we were told it is a boy but the other day while rubbing its tummy, we noticed NIPPLE like structures (2) on his underside. Is it possibly a girl?

Young rabbits are hard to sex. Take the bunny to a rabbit vet and have a check up, you will know for sure.
>> Anonymous
Or you could ask a reputable and experienced breeder to check it over for you. Free, and most breeders are more than happy to help out new owners.

Male mammals have nipples too last time I checked. :I

Oh dear god. You turn me on.

It's not uncommon for male mammals to have sex, because the fetuses begin as females.

Fuck, I meant nipples.
I blame the above posts.

Its probably a boy. Most male mammals have nipples, excluding Rats, Mice, Horses, Sperm Whales, and of course the echidna and platypus.

Though, neither gender of the Echidna and Platypus have nipples.

Platypus is evidence against intelligent design.

??

That was a bit left field, but everything's evidence against Intelligent Design. Intelligent Design is a logic argument, like the one that says a turtle who has a headstart will ALWAYS win in a race against a rabbit. Just because you can argue something logically, it doesn't mean it holds a thin sheet of paper up to practical experiment.

That said, platypus-like species appear to go back about 110 million years; while the form may seem a little wierd it's obviously a good one if it has lasted this long.

Vets usually do it for free too because you honestly can't charge someone for 2 seconds worth of work. At least the vet where I did some work experience stuff did it for free. (And used me as a slave to hold like 6 million baby bunnies in my arms - I melted!)

Anyway, they're hard to sex until a certain age but then it comes close to being too late... :) So get it sexed asap!

>>278588

You can sex rabbits as soon as they're out of the nestbox, and it's not THAT hard either. I can usually tell, with a very low error rate, the sex by 10-14 days of age. By the time they're weaned, it's fricken easy and almost impossible to mess up.

Just because you have a vet that will do it for free, doesn't mean that every vet will.

If he purchased a rabbit from a petstore, I can only wonder if the people there knew anything about animals in general and rabbi'ts sex in particular.
I'd take it to a vet to check for the general health of the bunny, some of these petstore bunnies are not well breed. Besides, they can be sold before eight weeks, which will amount in a whole new set of problems. And they're not neutered/spayed. You don't want a male rabbit to reach sexual maturity inside your house, trust me. He or she will need to see a vet to be fixed.

LOL! No it is not. I veiw it to be the opposite. Evidence of evolution, rather than intelegent design.

but IDiots just discard that argument because they ACTUALLY BELIEVE the earth is only 6000 years old

How threads get derailed like that will never cease to amaze me.
Put a fundie and an evolutionist in an arena and whoever wins, wins. Most importantly, take it elsewhere.

Agreed. Let's get back on topic... the topic being nipples.

I took a pet store employee's word when she said both of my bunnies were girls. Biiiiiiiiiiiiiig mistake.

I think your reading skills are a bit off. OP is trying to figure out the sex of the rabbit.
>> Anonymous
>>278811
No, I think he was trying to figure out how to have sex with his rabbit.
>> Anonymous
>>278809
That's why it's important to take the rabbit to somebody who has knowledge about those issue. And pet stores employees are not likely to have that knowledge or any other for that matter.

He didn't sound like he was a troll from /b/ like you do, of course I maybe me mistaken, About OP, not about you.

Supposedly my doctor said I was male yet I too have nipples

All mammals male and female have nipples. Rabbits are hard to sex at a young age, but nipples don't really have much to do with it. I used to work in the kennel of petland, and was taught all this crap from a vet who trained us.

Through their mammary slits, like echidnas and platypi?
>> Anonymous
>>279353
Echidna and platypi have no nipples, and simply ooze milk through pours in their skin over their mammory glands.

Male Rats, Mice, Horses, and Sperm whales have no nipples either.
