sup /an/

I just got some hermit crabs as a present, and really like them, but want to make sure they're happy (or however you would define an invertebrate's satisfaction with life).

I have two, one large and one small, in a clear plastic box that's about a foot and a half by a foot. I have some sand and pebbles covering the bottom, a dish with hermit crab food in it, and a shell with wet sponges in it. I plan on making the sand deeper, and adding more shells and things to climb, because apparently they like that. The bigger one moves around when it can't see me, and seems to get stuck in the corners, but the small one hasn't moved an inch, even to get water. I'm a little worried. I know he's alive, because it moves when i pick it up, but how long can he hold out?

Basically, I just want to make sure that I'm doing things right. Anyone have hermit crab experience?

he is probably just moving around at night, hermit crabs are partially nocturnal

He may just be hiding from the bigger crab.
I bought some new crabs for my tank and the present crabs attacked and ripped off the new guys legs. So yeah, he probably likes his legs.

Yeah but you only have two, or is some large crab person posting that?

Make sure you have a lot of shells in there, else they will battle to the death over them.

I dare not even consider the implications of this.

best way to train hermit crabs is to mark off places you don't want them to go with lemon juice and when they're bad hit them with a squirt of drawn butter

Hermit... Crab

What part of a name like that makes you think it wants to be around other crabs?

It's probably just stressed out because it was recently taken from it's natural habitat and mailed to a fuckin' store.
