Well, first off, you have to clean them and feed them. Guinnea pigs need lots of vitamin C - you could put that in their water. If you don't, they might lose their ability to move their rear legs etc (scary stuff). Also, compared to other rodents, they are noisy, and not as smart as rats, but they sure are entertaining and they are not escape artists. If you have yard, let them run there sometimes (on a leash).
In south america, they are bred for eating, so if you ever get tired of your new pets...
