Do I ever really need to bathe my pet rats? is it an optional thing, or is it a good idea? How often?
>> Anonymous
Bathe them in the toilet.

You only really need to bathe them if they get really dirty or start to smell. I only ever bathed mine once or twice.
>> Anonymous
It's optional. Doing it too often will hurt their skin by removing oils. Once a month is ok.

Then how fucking often are you cleaning his cage? Probably not very.

Males can get stinky even if you clean the cage often.

If you wash them, use baby shampoo.

I never had to clean my females and they smelled like raisin juice.

The males are a different story.

Squeeze them until their eyes pop out!

I have a white rat, and he gets a orange coloring on his back if I don't clean him every one or 2 months... it's natural. Take some dish soap and give him a bath in the sink.

i bathe mine every sunday with ratty shampoo. they hate water, but they always smell like licorice afterwards. my albino gets a brownish tinge to her fur around her neck and my black silvered gets into anything and everything, so she always ends up pretty dirty by the end of the week. :3
