on a scale of 1-10 how bad do ferrets smell? I've heard awful things.

The smell is extremely manageable if you know what you're doing, but unneutered males in particular smell really strong. They all have a smell to some degree, but you can certainly do things to control it. And odds are if you don't know what to do TO control it (ie if you bathe them a lot, don't clean regularly, don't clean the litterbox daily), yes, they're going to smell bad.

Most ferrets at petstores in the US are decented. Ferrets shouldn't "stink". All the ones at the petstores do because of the bad food they are eating and the cage they are in has no ventilation so they are pretty much marinating in the sweet sweet poo smell.

I have three and none of them smell. One of them actually smells like downy dryer sheets because I keep it under the cage pans to give them a nice smell.

somewhat on-topic:

is it true that American pet ferrets are more tame and less aggressive than British ferrets, because British ones are still used for hunting?
>> Anonymous
>>332796
no

it is true because British ferrets have to deal with British people

wat

no really, when I got my first two ferrets, one bit me twice and I had to go to hospital and get an operation (I originally went for tetanus shit but they insisted they had to cut me open).
so i swapped him.
the new one (the darker one from original pic) is great though and never even tried to bite me.
but then the second one (cinammon from pic) has grown bitey.

and I can't believe how in America 7 year old kids apparently beg for ferrets like they would for kittens when they can bite their hands off
