Um? Macros are allowed? Read GLOBAL rule 3: "Do not post the following outside of /b/: Trolls, flames, racism, off-topic replies, uncalled for catchphrases, macro image replies, indecipherable text (example: "lol u tk him 2da bar|?"), anthropomorphic ("furry"), grotesque ("guro"), or loli/shota pornography." It's on the first damned page of the rules.

its good company. dogs require training and daily walks, when my cat is fine with occupying herself with a wrapper.

Cats are as smart as a 6 month old human while dogs are as smart as a 2 year old. Most people mistake cats nature and instincts as intelligence.

>>177121
cite your source(s) for currently baseless assertion

It's kind of like being a chess player. If you look at it in human developmental terms, a dog is about equivalent to a human two-year-old, which means it knows about 260 words or signals. The average cat, meanwhile, is more like an 18-month-old, which means it knows about 50 words.

I never understood why everyone on 4chan likes cats so much. Cats are just evil and don't give a shit about anyone other than themselves, where as dogs are genuinely happy to be around you.

Also, corgis.
>> Vishox
i don't mind either as a pet.

>>177205

I like cats for exactly that reason. Cats are indipendant and they do what they want to. Dogs on the other hand act like retards who have nothing better to do than follow you around.

People do the exact same thing: Some people tend to lead the conversation, they have their own hobbies, and they go out and get things done. Other people are perpetually bored unless someone else is entertaining them--so they either follow around other people, or they glue themselves in front of the TV.

Yeah, right. I'd like to see the study that revealed us that amazing "fact".

As for how smart cats really are, nobody knows for sure. They have a lot longer memory than dogs, longer than orangutans in fact! They also have primate-level visual memory. Where they lose to dogs, though, is in working memory. They are also less eager to please, less energetic and less motivated to learn tricks than dogs, which some people see as "stupidity". Actually the apparent difference between cat and dog intelligence is mostly due to instincts. Dogs being pack animals naturally behave in a way humans see as "smart", while the solitary, opportunistic nature of a cat makes them seem "stupid" when in actuality they view situations differently from humans and dogs. To test the intelligence of a cat, one must stop thinking like a large social animal and start thinking like a small solitary predator, which a lot of people (including some early researchers) have failed to do.

I remember reading about a recent study that showed dog owners lead healthier lives than cat owners. They suffered from fewer cases of heart attacks and strokes.

Dr Deborah Wells reviewed dozens of earlier research papers which looked at the health benefits of pet ownership.

She confirmed that pet owners tended in general to be healthier than the average member of the population.

However, her research suggested that dog ownership produced more positive influence than cat ownership.

As well as lower blood pressure and cholesterol, she said dog-owners suffered fewer minor ailments and serious medical problems.

There was also the suggestion that dogs could aid recovery from serious illnesses such as heart attacks, and act as 'early warning' to detect an approaching epileptic seizure.

It was already pointed out that dogs force their owners to exercise. More exercise = better health. This isn't exactly rocket science, people!
>> Anonymous
>>177702

Read the article. It's not just exercise that makes dog owners healthier. They also improve mental health and reduce stress by making their owners feel more important and needed.
>> Anonymous
>>177745
So, dogs are for people with low self esteem or just useless people?
>> Anonymous
>>177747

Stop being such a retard. Owning cats and dogs gives you the same benefit of companionship, but dogs give their owners MORE benefit because they're friendlier.
>> Anonymous
Some people don't like animals that fawn and prostrate in obeisance at every possible moment of the day. For these people, cats are the superior choice.
