What you'll want to do is shave the area around where the dew claw is/was. This will help to see if there are any other injuries in the area. Afterwards, disinfect it with a mixture of Bactine and iodine (another reason to shave the area, iodine will permanently stain his fur orange).
To make sure he does not lick it off, get yourself some bandaging and wrap it up tightly, using surgical tape to secure it.
Repeat this process 2-3 times a day for a week. If you find that the wound is getting worse, or the cat is tearing the bandaging to shreads too much, take it to the vet immediately.
