we are headed down to the local animal shelter to adopt another cat/s this weekend.

I have two females (littermates), 18 months old. I'm looking at adopting two male littermates, 6 months old, that are having a bit of trouble being rehoused because they're inseperable and have to go together.

has anyone adopted more than one cat into a multi-cat household? should I be placing an extra litter tray? (I already have two)

any other tips? pic is the boys.

General rule of litter trays for cats is 1 per cat plus 1 extra.

Also, I think it's great you're adopting these two and I hope everything runs as smoothly as possible for you.

oh God, haha. my whole house is going to be nothing but litter trays. One of mine is this huge oversized behemoth which the cats love to dig in. It's the size of a small sandpit.

yeah, i should probably have qualified my statement with "standard litterbox size". However, yes, you will probably end up having to dedicate one room to just litter trays. If possible or practicable, you might want to consider having the litter trays outside, or, if you have the time and dedication try human toilet-training them. Either way... have fun!

Human toilet is not a good option. The cat poop has some bectria that kills water mammels such as dolphins and whales, after the sewage reach to the sea. Sounds stupid, but is true.

I'm used to cleaning cat poop many times a week by now. I use the crystal litter which doesn't smell quite so badly.

I have heard it's bad for cats, but I've heard clay is bad for cats... and paper litter stinks.

You can use semolina instead of the sand. I know some people who tried it and said it works great.

Crystal litter can be horrible.

My best friend's littler brother once threw their kitten onto their metal wood stove. Poor kitten got blistered paws and was in all sorts of pain.

They used crystal litter in their house, and every time the kitten came out of it, we had to sit down, hold him, and pull the crystals out of the bottom of his paws.

I hate that little kid do much.

:( the poor puss awwww

my cow cat jumped onto an electric stove while my parter was cooking, when she was 3 months. she burned 3 of her feets. she has scars on her footpads, but it's not too bad. I was too freaked out to ever use the stovetop again, we have gas now.

If i were you, i would have tossed the little brother onto the stove.

This actually happened...roughly 5 to 6 years ago.

I still want to throw him into/onto the stove for hurting the poor kitten.

I would've crushed the little fucker's skull right then and there and plead insanity.

I have 4 cats in my house and 3 LARGE litter boxes. It's not hard to deal with, but you have to hit that shit everyday. Especially if you have male cats in the mix, their urine has high ammonia and will make you sick if you don't get it cleaned.
