not a gar and needlefish are mostly salt and brackish.

it's one of the characins (I know that's broad, but that name is used in the hobby to refer to many of the large predator "tetras") Many of them also go by freshwater barracuda, better pic would help, many have that fin shape and tail spot but the head would help

Definately C. Hujeta Charachin. Can get to 10" I believe but usually smaller. They LOVE feeders.
