Hi, /an/.
I usually let my rats out on the balcony (its more like a room without isolation, since there are windows there) every day after school, but today its a bit cold outside. My question is this: if the temperature is ok for me, will it be warm enough for them? There is no wind blowing there because of the windows.
Pic related, its one of my rats <3

I dont wanna start a new rat thread, so...

How can I train my rat to use a mouse wheel? he seems scared of it, and stays far away.

they wont use it, for the most part they are too smart to do stupid shit like that and also too big for a hamster wheel

Your rat is adorable. <3

I dunno, I know rats don't like it chilly, and with their already fragile respiratory systems I personally wouldn't chance it; however, I'm probably just paranoid.

aww, pretty face.

My boys don't like the cold, but they're pussies so maybe your rats are braver

First off, it has to be large enough, and second, it really just depends on your rat. I had a rat who ran all the time. The other ones never used it, ever.

It really depends on the rat. At one point I had 8 rats, and only 3 of them ever used the wheel. The rest of them avoided it or tried to sleep in it.

It was pretty funny watching one rat try to evict a sleeping rat so he could use the wheel.

The two girl rats I have right now wouldn't go near theirs, and one morning I got up and they had buried it behind a wall of Carefresh, so I just took it out.

Rats don't like drafts, but if it's a little chilly they should be ok. I wouldn't have them in anything lower than around 60F, personally. You can put something out there for them to cuddle up in if they get chilled... a shoebox with an old tshirt or something.

first off, a mouse wheel is much too small. you need a wheel that's at least 12 inches in diameter. second, most rats won't use is, as the other anons said. my girls run on theirs all the time, but a lot of rats don't like wheels.

Trust me you don't want them to start. It gets annoying VERY quickly, especially with a metal one (screeeech. screeeeech.). Try sleeping near that shit. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

There's this magical substance called 'oil' that eliminates the noise caused by metal bearings scraping against each other.

I had two rats when I was a kid.

Onetime they got away out of the house and the next day we found them in our rabbit coop snuggling up with my sisters rabbit... After that all they wanted to do was go outside our door so we started letting them go outside all the time. We could call them whenever we wanted by making the ch ch ch ch noise... Anyway they ended up making a home under our houses little wanna be deck thingy and stayed there tell we had to move.

I want a rat again, amazing animals.

My hamsters and mice always lick it off when I put it on there D:

Your rat is really pretty! What a sleek coat. What breed is it?

My hyper female uses her wheel. Have to get her a bigger one now as she's grown. The other two sleep in it until Shiki pounces on them.
And there are 'silent' wheels out there. Usually plastic. My gerbil has one, only way you know he's using it is when you see the wheel turning.
