Large birds, like macaws and amazon grey's, can live a long-ass time. Their average life span/s is 60-80 years. Can you deal with that? If you get frustrated two years in, you can't just "let the bird free", whether you live in a city or the country! These intelligent birds require huge, huge enclosures to live in. They aren't going to just live in a gerbil cage or a glass aquarium! They are expensive, too. My friend spends about $1,000 a year on her Scarlet Macaw for vet checks/medicine alone and he's only 16 years old! They need enrichment like toys and things to keep their brains goin'.
So yeahhh... parrots do not make great pets, especially for amateurs. They are VERY loud, live a long time, require lots of care and lots of moneyyyy, and they usually are not friendly, unless you adopt a pre-trained one.
