i'm getting myself a tarantula in june once i move out. any stories/advice for me?

Don't.

Don't handle it too much. It stresses them out.

Do your research; be sure of whether you want an arboreal species, a terrestrial one, or a burrower. Be advised, many burrowers you'll never see.

Fuck Grammostola rosea. They are boring as shit and everyone has one. Be original and get a Grammostola aureostriata (Chaco Golden Knee). Even a Honduran Curlyhair (Brachypelma albopilosum) is 50 times better.

G. rosea is weird. You won't get a guarantee of docility with that species. I've seen some that are as defensive as Asian species, others that flick hair all the time, and then there's the issue with them taking breaks off of feeding that'll only serve to stress you out.

Do not drop it. Even from a short distance will kill it.

Listen to this man. Grammostola Aureostriata (chaco golden knee) is like the best starter terrestrial tarantula.

If you like colourful species, look out for Avicularias, they've probably got the most awesome colours for beginner tarantulas.

eg. A. aurantiaca, purpurea or versicolor.
Check them out!

Fixed.

Have any tarantula owners had any cases of their pets biting them...?

Bites are either accidents or caused by careless owners.

1000 Ways to Die combines the science of living and the randomness of death with a dash of Darwinism. What actually happens when a rattlesnake's venom enters a human’s bloodstream? How do Nitrogen bubbles affect the body after long exposure under water then immediately to 2 miles up into the sky? These questions and many more will be answered in this original special in glorious CGI effects. Forensic experts, pathologists, toxicologists, herpetologists, and other experts offer eloquent explanations of mortality. All the cases included in the special are based on true stories of actual deaths.

The picture's name tells you about it.
Blaptica dubia, a roach usually used for feeding.

He is correct. It is a Blaptica Dubia male. I feed my arboreals Blaptica dubia males or Blaberus discoidalis males. The wing flapping gets their attention fast.
