Ok /an/, I have this red belly pacu in my tank and it's been pissing me off ever since I have been taking care of it. It was orinigally my mothers fish but it grew too big to be in her tank so she gave it to me even though I didn't want it. I have a 60 gallon tank with other fish that I really like and have 0 problems with. All this fucking pacu does is thrash around the tank, splash water all over my floor and bump into everything and destroying my plant/rock setups. I love animals and I would never hurt one but this guy is pushing me to the limit. I am really concidering taking him out of the tank and choping his head off with an axe. Its the quickest way I could think of killing him. Any suggestions guys?

Your mom foisted a large annoying fish on you. Mine has me watching her incontinent, deaf, almost blind 19-year-old dog while she lives in Italy.

This is their payback.

Freeze it.

Dead serious. I was reading about bettas a little while ago and it said that if you don't want your poor fish to suffer, put it in some water and freeze it.

Yeah.

dip him in a pot of boiling water.
fish + sudden and drastic temperature changes = quick and painless death.

have you concidered giving him away to a local pet store btw?

This is the best way. They simply slow down, fall asleep, and epire.

>>49802

This works only with SMALL FISH! They will often have an explosive fit when they hit the water, about the rest of their life's swimming in 3/100 of a second. So unless you want to be hosed down with boiling water, do not do this with anything over 3"

How about asking your fish dealer or zoo if they want to take care of it?
>> Anonymous
Dose it with a bit of clove oil, then chop the thing into pieces. When will people every fucking learn that pacu are not aquarium fish, god damnit. What a shame.

You think your pacu is annoying? My ex left me with two red-eared sliders, the little bastards have now become huge bastards. He lives in Canada and can't take them back with him. No shelters want them, and no pet stores want them because they're too big. They stink, I have to clean their aquarium at least once a week and we'll have to get a bigger one soon.

Craigslist your unwanted pets, /an. A lot of people use it for free food and live bait for their pets. Don't just throw them away or kill them for no reason.
>> Probester !swmZnGYydU
Pacus are pretty wicked, they eat a lot of live food and only some vegitation similar to a pirana, but is actually in the Tetra family. There are some pretty viscious tetras out there, like sabre tooth barracudas and leporinus (when at full size). Any fish with that small useless fin between the dorsal and the tail are either a tetra or catfish, and if it has no whiskars, it isn't a catfish.

I have tried two pet stores around here and both said the same thing. "too big for us"

Find a local pond or river. Take said fish and release it into the wild and let nature take its course.

And points to this thread for making me laugh my ass off with the Fuck you on the picture and the little sword.

This is the stupidest thing you could do, especially with such an aggressive fish. Hasn't humanity learned the lesson of introduced species? I can't believe people still suggest stuff like this.

Your face is a hyperbola. >:<

IF you are going to kill it, chop it's head off as you suggested yourself. It is the most humane way to kill a fish.

Freezing and boiling are BAD ideas. Boiling is slower than having the head chopped off, and much more painful. Freezing is slow and atleast to some fish really stressful.

Seriously, just eat it. 'Research shows that the "flavor of (farmed) pacu is comparable to that of hybrid striped bass, tilapia, and rainbow trout, but superior to catfish." In South America, pacu are prized for their sweet, mild flavor.'

Hell, even Theodore Roosevelt said they're delicious

How about instant kill by electricity ?
I'd use one plastic bucket, two metal rods and an electric cord. Fill bucket with water, fixate the rods in the bucket and connect the wires.
Put fish in the water and plug in the electricity.
Wait 5 minutes to be sure and then unplug it.

I heard from someone that worked at a pet store chain that baking soda in water is a good method of euthanizing a fish. Apparently it is not painful to them and works well. This person had to euthenize a lot of sick fish.
>> Anonymous
>>49934

...clearly has no understanding of electricity. This method is not likely to work. There is no way to ensure that the electricity is going to travel through the fish, instead of just around it. It is also very likely to cause a buildup of hydrogen gas and sparks, which can leave you with a nasty explosion on your hands.

If you want to kill a fish, use the baking soda technique described earlier, or drop it into a pot of boiling water. The blender would work too, but it's messy.

If you must, then kill like a fisherman.
Hit it with a club on the brain (located behind the eyes) to stun it and then stab the heart with a knife from the underside.
>> Anonymous
>>49975clearly never went on an electric fishing spree.
Lots of fun, probably illegal where you live, no matter where you live, though probably less so than grenade or bleach fishing.

>>49985

That's pretty hardcore. I second this method.

Stick a hook in it and use it to catch one of these.

Just let us know what you're going to do with this smug son of a bitch.

As for No.49895, someone caught a Pacu in a local lake a few years ago. The sucker grew BIG, two feet in length and about a foot wide. It was a vicious looking fucker.

How did it get there?

Someone let it go.

Still, it would only survive the summer months if this person did that. Well, depending on where they lived. Pacu's are warm water fish. If the water became too cold, well, they DIE.

Or you can find your most macho friend, tell them that you have a PIRANNA that you wanna get rid of. That it eats your other fish, but it's REALLY COOL. Play up the fish's agressive viciousness to the dumb ass and then pull Your MOm on them and foist the fish on them.

2ft is normal for a red bellied pacu. Yes, baking soda = fish euthanization. Clove oil was mentioned and is good, too. It's what they use to put .. what is it .. captive puffers under when they trim their beaks. Maybe it's not puffers, I can't remember the names of the little fuckers.. but they've got beaks that don't get worn down in captivity so they have to be trimmed.

Anyway.

If I remember correctly, Pacus' natural diet involves more vegetation than anything else. However, people don't raise them on that.. they're used to being thrown feeders and stuffed with your typical flake food so that's all they eat.

Find some local pet stores who can put the word out for you, find message boards, pick up an aquarium enthusiast magazine and thumb through the fish sales sites.. if you really want to get rid of the fish without killing and/or eating it (or dumping it into some local body of water which is totally illegal) you'll find something that works in everybody's best interest.

OP here. Yeah I live in Rhode Island so all the ponds here are wicked cold and it would be a bad death for the poor guy. Ehhh I dont know. I think i'll just keep him FOR NOW... but i'll shop him around still and try and see if I could sell the fucker. I dont want to give it away for free what the fuck its a nice fish but its just too much of an asshole for me. I would only give it away for free if a pet store took it. If I have anymore update I will be sure to update on here.
