Jindo Dog Anonymous
/an/, im thinking about getting a Jindo dog. Do you guys have any advice or know of any books/websites that can help prepare for this kind of dog?

As I'm sure you're aware, these used to be used as Korean food dogs (apparently really tasty). Know that they are extremely rambunctious and intelligent for dogs.

Fail. Jindos weren't meant to be eaten for food. NOBODY eats Jindos, as they're like some sort of national treasure to Korea.

Anyway, Jindos are pretty tough to keep, depending on your situation. It'd be pretty stupid to get one if you live in an apartment or some small house. They're very strong and kind of hyper, and definitely need a lot of room to run around, as they were bred to be hunters or guard dogs. At their worst, they can be unnecessarily territorial and really vicious, especially towards other dogs or strangers. At their best, they're extremely loyal and make excellent guard dogs and are really fun to play with (when I was a kid, I used to ride around on the back of my Jindo xD). Definitely an outdoorsy sort of dog.

There's a park nearby and I plan on taking it up to the mountains every weekend. Will that keep it happy?

Also are female Jindos less aggressive than males?

Their original habitat was a very mountainy country, so that would be swell.

I think female jindos are supposed to be calmer/mellower than males, but I'm not totally sure on that.

One last question. I want this dog to be well-trained and not bark at everything that moves. Is there a book or a class that you guys know of that can help me with that?

Males tend to fight more often with other males, but not really serious. Femals can really hate other females and if fighting, they can harm each other badly.
But females are less dominant.
