My beloved chinchilla Skillet, the notorious self-loving rodent that graced /an/ died last night.
I let the frisky guy run around, was a little tipsy, and after a rather rough capture of him returned him to his cage. He hopped around for a few seconds, layed down, and died.
I'm assuming it was a crushed spine or a heart attack.
He was only about 2.5 years old, but was the sweetest and gentlest roomate I've ever had. I seem to be having trouble coping, tho it's been but one day. Talking about him using words like "was" makes me quite uncomfortable and sad.

Any coping advice or chinchilla stories would help. Anon needs a hug

You killed him by violently grabbing him while drunk

I truly cry for you

Everyone knew skillet as the gangsta chilla with the sweet and spicy attitude. He had more character than any other rodents I'd owned (guinea pig, rat, hamster, mice, gerbil, etc).

He loved hopping in his wheel and jumping off of it so fast it would rattle. He never bit anyone in his time. He would take treats from your mouth and when you pet him, he would close his eyes and lift up his head and chin in delight.

I realize now that every month I had him, I took many pictures of him, dirty and clean. Sorry for the blurriness of this one

chinchillas are always hard to catch (all the websites say that some chasing is involved), and they are fragile animals. The fact that he ran around afterwards suggests that you did not, in fact, hurt him yourself.
I hope you feel better

YOU KILLED YOUR FUCKING CHINCHILLA

MURDERER

good job killing your pet because you took him out when drinking and couldn't handle it. *clap*

lol, lame responses to make me feel bad do not bother me. I was not drunk, my friend was the tipsy one and he didn't touch my chin

"I let the frisky guy run around, was a little tipsy..."

Clearly you're referring to either yourself or the chin... as far as I know the only way your chin was drunk is if you gave him alcohol.

Good job killing your pet. If you were actually sober when you caught it, wow, you just fail harder.

I heard that their hair falls out if they get wet. Is this true?

No, it's not true--not as a rule anyway.

Though their hair does fall out if they are stressed out. And, getting wet could be a stress factor, so keep that in mind.
