/an/ I was sitting down to enjoy some nice Nutella spread on a crisp piece of bread when my phone rang. I went into the next room to take the call, leaving the Nutella open on the table and come back to see my pomeranian lapping that shit up. I heard dogs really like chocolate but they can also be killed by it. Is this true? What should I do?

My lab/chow mix dog ate a whole bag of Mega M&Ms by himself. Stupid candy bag was the size of a cereal box.

He's alive, he's fine. Chocolate isn't as bad as, say, grapes or whatever. A little isn't going to kill him.

Small dogs might not be quite so lucky.

Not OP here, but now there's a topic on this, what foods exactly are harmful/deadly to dogs? Our old dog, a rottie, ate everything from chocolate to onions/garlic whatever, and was okay, but now that I'm getting a new dog I could at least try to protect her from non-healthy things.

Chocolate contains theobromine, which is toxic to dogs. The amount depends on the type of chocolate (dark is a lot worse than white chocolate) and the size of the dog. If the dog starts puking or having seizures, get it to a vet ASAP. If it acts fine, don't worry about it too much, but try to keep it away from chocolate in the future. If it's really a lot of chocolate, you can induce vomiting by giving the dog a couple of teaspoonfuls of hydrogen peroxide (that's what poison control had us do after our dog ate a lot of ant poison).
