This is my hamster, he's a playful little guy but I can't hold him or anything.

Basically, I bought two of the little guys but one was very territorial. The guy in the pet-shop was obviously retarded as he said they would get on well in pairs but after Googling, it became less believable.

For months, Silent Bob was attacked and at the point where he ended up with cuts and was bleeding, I decided to dispose of the hamster who was actually friendly to me but attacking him.

So it has been almost a year and I get on well with my hamster, it just seems that he's too afraid to come out and play with me, he will accept food from my hands and he never bites me, but he is too timid to climb onto my hand or take food from my palm.

I don't mind him, but if anyone knows what I might be able to do to get him to stop being scared and shy, I'd appreciate it.

Well, I tried to set it free by opening my back door and allowing it to run away, but it kept coming back to me.

So I took it back to the shop and they took it off my hands.

I wouldn't use cedar bedding. The oils in it to eliminate odor can be harmful to any small animal's respiratory system

correct. Any softwood like cedar, pine, fir, etc all contain carcinogens, respiritory irritants, and toxins.

Shit dude, I use a lavender bedding, it's pretty strong stuff but I didn't realise it could be harmful.

I'd just get it replaced asap. I have two female mice and while I realize their odors are not as strong, I just use the gray carefresh wadded up paper stuff and I can't smell a thing

Ok thanks guys, I'll see what I can replace it with.

If you just get him out one way or another and let him walk around on you to show him it's alright to come out, he won't be so shy. Getting him out is the hard part, I usually coax mine into a tube and take out the tube.

Aww, what a cute hamster.
You should have kept the other one though; just in a separate cage.
