For several months my ferret has been getting skinnier and skinnier. She eats very little and now she's all skin and bones. I can feel her spine and ribs when I feel her and she's very very weak. She very slowly moaps about and can't climb anything taller than a shoebox. She makes this grinding sound with her teeth and her stools are always runny. I took her to the vet last month and they gave me some antibiotics and special food but the antibiotics didn't help and now she's refusing to eat the prescription food. I really think she is dieing and there is nothing I can do. She's about 4 years old though. What should I do? I hate seeing her like this.

Just had to go through something similar with one of my cats. Turned out he had a cancerous mass in your stomach. Get a second opinion; I don't think the first vet knew what he/she was doing, IMHO. It sounds a little bit more serious than a bacterial infection.

sounds almost like adrenal, w/out the hair loss... or it could be something like Insulinoma, eather way they are both very serious.... i had a ferret that i rescued that ended up having Insulinoma... it was devastating to see him deteriorate so quickly, but it can be treated... u need to take ur baby to another vet... asap!

def get second opinion before it ends up like this cute guy

someone from /b/ posted it and I asked Anon where it was from. He said he found it like this, and right after he took the pic, it fell into the gap in the bridge and he had to take it to a vet. the vet euthanized it without telling him because it was wet -_- it didn't even have a cold yet!

so wait... why did he feel the need to take that ermine out of the wild?

Either you are the most gullible person on 4chan or you are second hand trolling. There is grass coming up between those boards, indicating it is not a "bridge" over anything more than a very small ditch (but probably just a boarded walkway). Plus that pic can be found on a dozen cute animal picture websites.

Hey maybe you didn't know this, but THOSE BOARDS ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT MORE THAN A FOOT OFF THE GROUND AND CAPS LOCK IS CRUISE CONTROL FOR ROMANCE, WOULD YOU LIKE TO DANCE?

OP here, I've been doing some research on insulinoma and I suspect this may be her condition. She often sorta stares off into space like she's half asleep. I'm making an appointment for the vets and keeping her well fed but she's very picky eater. She wown't eat anything unless I put ferretvite in it which is like pure sugar. What can I do to make my ferret eat? Is it possible to force feed her?
>> Fawkes
change the diet...maybe the food needs to be changed to something with more fiber. I know that sounds stupid, but I'm not joking. ask about a diet change.

My ferret has IBS and has to have a special diet. He won't eat it unless the food is warm since the diet is wet food. If it's wet food, try warming it up?

Sounds like Ulcer to me. Teeth grinding is pretty specific. Give her a little bit of pepto bismol to help the pain in her stomach.

Does she paw at the mouth? Have you seen any black tarry poop? Green? She could also have a blockage.

Does she like ferretone? IT's very important to make sure she is eatting. Go to the store and get some gerber baby chicken stage 2 food. Mix it with some warm water. Put her on your lap and put a dab on your finger and put it in her mouth or on her nose. She might not like it right away, put some ferretone in it. Then try to syringe feed her if she won't eat her on her own. or feed her with your finger, you can also try scruffing her, she might just eat to make you happy. She probably isnt eatting because her tummy feels bad

Also get another vet a more ferret friendly one.

OP here. She loves ferretvite, raisins, french fries, basically anything that's sugary. I can get her to eat by putting tons of ferretvite in her food but that's probably making things worse. I stopped giving it to her and her appetite has increased a tad and she's looking a little more bright eyed. I'm gunna try testing her bloodsugar with a meter. (my dad is diabetic) Also she'll only eat wet food. I have to soak her kibble in water untill it's mush but the lack of hard food in her system has caused her to have a prolapse.

Both myself and Bitter Anon are from Louisiana, and I'm sure he knows what he's talking about when he says those are not water plants. They aren't.

My cat had something like this, and in fact it was a wound in his mouth which we couldn't see.

It doesn't look like any kind of swampy plants that I've ever seen. Though the weasel's feet do appear to be wet and there is water on the boards, it seems much more likely that he just ran through dewey grass. While it IS possible that maybe thats a little bridge over a ditch, I am 100% sure that the story in>>257247is false.

OP here. She's recovering. I couldn't test her blood cause I couldn't get a drop of blood. Vet gave us some antibiotics and a hormone to booster her appetite and make her stomach feel better. It turned out her bowels are hardened from infection (something like IBS for ferrets) and aren't adsorbing nutrients properly. Infection could be cancerous or bacterial/protozoa. I've resorted to spoon feeding her 4 times a day and she loves that. Of course I have to scruff her to get her to start eating but it's working. She's a little more active and is able to walk with out falling over and I've even seen her run once. (after I gave her medicine) The antibiotics are the same but larger dose plus she's getting a antiinflammatory hormone. If the treatment works then it means she has bacterial/protozoa infection. If she doesn't then it's probably cancer. Hopefully it's not cancer but for the moment I'm just glad I don't have to watch her starve to death.
