Well, I have two guinea pigs living with me. They're brothers, and they're really cute.. Got them when they were just babies, and now they're like 6 months old.
Anyways, Guinea Pigs are a lot more work than hamsters, but I find them to be much more enjoyable. My Guinea Pigs have never bitten anyone. Lets start with the work part of the guinea pigs. These guys poop SO FUCKING MUCH. I mean WHAT THE FUCK. their poops are like the size of your pinky nail, but they poop like 50 times a day.
But you know, it's worth it. If you're young, it's a good lesson on responsibility, and I just think they're rewarding. Everytime they hear me walking up the stairs, they start going WHEEEEEEK WHEEEEK, poking their little noses out the side of the cage, being all cute and stuff. They will also remind you when to feed them. They always squeak early in the morning and in the evening, to get me to feed them. When they hear my voice, they look up at me and start enjoying themselves. They make a cute noise when they walk "chut chut chut".. It's like a person whistling to themselves. It seems like they're having a good day xD. And they LOVE attention. If you play with them, they start jumping uncontrollably and running around, purring and all that stuff. They have adjusted their sleeping patterns to work with mine, so that when I'm home, they're out of their houses, and when I'm asleep/at work, they're asleep. tl;dr - They're a lot of work. Bedding is changed once a week, water changed daily, given veggies twice a day, hay rack filled regularly, nails trimmed once every two weeks to a month, they're costly too.. All those little expenses add up. But they're a lot more vocal than hamsters, and they don't just ignore you like hamsters seem to do. They know you're there, they look at you, they communicate with you.
