Aww shit. I just killed a California Legless Lizard because it was in my house and I thought it was a baby rattler, which are dangerous to the horses I have.

Turns out they are on a "Not endangered yet, but will be soon if you keep killing it" list.

Anyone done shit like this? I feel bad.

How the fuck could someone mistake this for a rattlesnake??? Did you even look at it before you killed it? Have you never seen a picture of a rattlesnake before?

I killed/mauled a lizard that had made a home under our trash can once (i didn't want to take it in, and left it by the door for a few days). Pretty much beheaded the thing on accident. I cried all day over it.

When I was a kid I pulled out an anole's throat flap to see how it looked, and later it wouldn't pull it back. To this day I'm still afraid that I broke it ;_;

I can't recall killing an animal myself, but I remember my dad coming inside from mowing the lawn one day with a sad look on his face. I asked him what was wrong.

He accidentally mowed over a little burrow in the ground with a bunch of baby bunnies. :(

When I was like 8 I ran over a massive caterpillar with my bike, I saw it, and tried to stop but my wheel went over it head. Then it got eaten by ants :<

Once when I was a little kid a praying mantis landed on me and I freaked out and killed it. There's like something against killing those right?

My uncle did that once. Thankfully the babies survived, though one had a bloody nose, I think.

I ran over a cat that bolted out in front of my car. I think it was suicide.

I killed a huge predatory bird of some sort when it flew low in front of my car. The grille was covered in feathers and blood. Idiot bird, but I felt bad anyway.

I also sideswiped a doe. It snapped off the radio antenna and there is still fur stuck around the keyhole on the passenger side.

I nearly hit a crow that flew in front of me on the way home :/

I threw a small stone at a squirrel when I was a kid. I actually hit it and then felt bad for the squirrel for a while. It was a heckuva throw too, the thing was like 20 feet up on an electric line pole 20 feet away from me.

When I was young, I poured chlorine on a slug to see what would happen. Its innards started to leak out and I cried.

How are legless lizards different from snakes?
In Chinese, lizards are called "4 legged snakes"

Aren't rabbit burrows supposed to be deep underground?
>> Anonymous
I remember, when I was extremely young, I would take some kittens a stray had, and would toss them into the air. I couldn't throw them very high, so more often than not the kittens would land on their backs, or awkwardly.

Thinking about it now makes me sick. ;_;

snakes don't have ears, eyelids, or(except in pythons/boids afaik) vestigial limbs. legless lizards do. legless lizards also have tails that can fall off/regenerate. maaaany differences

Someone here in Maryland said it's illegal to kill mantids. I was just stoked to know that they can be found in the wild here.

I thought that too, but the rabbits around here only dig tiny shallow holes and put their babies in it. While they're big enough to hide a little underground, if you just move some dirt or grass from the top they're totally exposed.

They do this all the time. Awhile ago a rabbit dug a shallow hole in our tomato patch and you could look down and see all the babies. It was so cute. :3 She moved them a few days later, though. I should have got pictures.

Wait. You were responding to me? I wasn't talking about rabbits. I was talking about mantids. However, yes you should have gotten pictures.
