My cat is lost How long does it usually take for them to return if at all? He is chipped and all so. the thing is he never left the backyard in the time he was here. so will he even find his way back?

cheers

The longest our cats have been gone and returned on their own is about a week, maybe a few days less (that's also as long as they've ever been gone without a trace). Generally you shouldn't wait any longer than a week before starting to call animal shelters and the like to find out if your cat has been brought in. If you can't find it though, don't give up hope yet. I know of cats that have ran away and returned after spending several months somewhere away from home.

My cats never come home, sorry OP

My one cat came back after about a month, and it had drug itself back with a broken hip (it got kicked by a deer apparently) so not to worry too much, just remember that if you go about screaming for it your more likely to scare it away.

My cat came back after a month, too. Turns out some college kids across the street stole her from our yard and took her across town. I don't know how she made it back, especially since we had just moved to that house a few months earlier. Maybe she went back to our old house first. Who knows. I'm just glad she came back. That was about 10 years ago, and she hasn't disappeared since.

You did introduce a shovel to their nasal cavatiy didn't you?

Did the college kids do that intentionally? You could potentially slap them with Animal Cruelty charges.

We couldn't prove it was them, but we had seen them being friendly to my cat, who's a whore for anyone nice. She normally stays away from people she doesn't know, so they must have given her some food. Like I said, though, it was 10 years ago. I'm sure the statute of limitations has run out by now, and there's no telling where those kids are now.
