Why do people let their animals get this fat?
It's irresponsible.

Yes, it's very irresponsible. Some may even call it animal cruelty. I wouldn't say this case is, but have you ever watched those shows on TV about these REALLY obese animals?

Switch to a low-cal formula, feed a half-cup per day in very small increments, don't feed any soft treats - a crunchy dental one maybe twice a day is fine -, and exercise him like hell.

Especially if your cat is indoors-only, you can't expect him to work off the weight by himself if all you ever do is feed him. You've got to entertain and then exercise him. Buy a laser-light, cats love those. Get an old shoelace and let him go nuts. Buy a kitty tree, or make one since they're so fucking expensive - get him to climb and play on it.

If he's sitting around on his ass while asleep, he can't sit around on his ass while awake and be expected to slim down. It just doesn't work that way, dumbass.

I dunno. Sometimes I'm sure people can just be overfeeding their cat, but in some cases I'd say calling it animal cruelty is like calling a parent abusive just for having a do-nothing slacker kid who sits on 4chan all day :O. It's not necessarily their fault!

Funfact: Cat's don't buy their cat food.

Yeah, but dude ... I love how his -food- is on the -bottom- of it.

Yeah. ... Yeah. That's real smart thinkin' there. Associate yum-yum-crunchy-food goodness ... with the floor. What motivation would he have, then, to climb and play on the thing? None.

Think at a cat's level, guy. If your grub is sitting on the couch, where you've been sitting all day, you aren't going to make the effort to go into the kitchen. If your cat's already lazy to begin with, putting his food on the floor in the thing isn't going to make him work for it.

That's not true. My cats' food is on the floor but they still use the cat tree. I think it has more to do with *where* the cat tree is because if it's in a corner or a room that people are never in, then of course it's not going to be used. But if the tree is in a place where the humans are, I find that the cats will use it.

Again, depends on the cat. It's not fair to call a pet owner an animal abuser if the animal is fat. Most of the population is fat -- why can't cats be, if they choose to be?

>It's not fair to call a pet owner an animal abuser if the animal is fat. Most of the population is fat -- why can't cats be, if they choose to be?

Nonsense. Firstly, most of the population is not fat, where are you from?
Secondly, overweight animals suffer all sorts of health problems, especially as they get older, and as the animals source of food is it's owner, it's the owner's responsibility to keep the animal at a resonable weight. One of my cats has a tendency to overeat and get fat, and I take real care that he doesn't. He ie a happier and healthier cat because of it.

You are an asshole for letting your cat get this fat. You're just slowly killing him and making his future a painful one. You control his food, he doesn't. Take him to a vet and come up with a feeding and exercise plan if you don't know how to.

Don't know why it says sage there. My bad. But you're still a jerk.
