Hey /an/, I just got a Siamese fighting fish. Does he have fin rot? :[
>> tigerfeather !CrwtTbFNxQ
You JUST got him? Why didn't you ask at the petstore? They would have told you if he did or not, and if he DID have it, and they were a reputable place, they would have taken him off the shelf as soon as you brought the question up. It's hard to tell with that picture, though. Looks normal to me. ~shrug~

lol. I didn't get him at a respectable pet store. I saw him at Meijer and felt sorry for him because he looked so pathetic in his little plastic cup. I know that's always a bad idea, but now that he's here, can I fix him?

god you are a bitch

Hard to tell from that picture, but usually a fish with tail rot or bacterial infections clamp their fins, and he seems pretty comfortable.

Looks more like an old injury or split tail that healed.

I like to use Seachem Betta Basics and StressGuard when I first get a betta home. A small sprinkle of aquarium salt (NOT TABLE SALT) is good too.

For best results, get a 1 gallon or more mini-aquarium with filtration to put him in.

lol, still the advice/criticism was valid. does the bitchiness turn you on though? :3

What the fuck? Either a fag or a woman who needs to gtfo

Thanks. I'm just worried about the top and back of his dorsal fin. They look weird and curled.

OP please post a better picture His color looks beautiful
And yeah something like StressGuard (I myself buy Stress Coat) is a very good product to buy

That's normal, especially in store bettas. It's just the way the fin formed.
Understand that most bettas bought in stores are what pro breeders would probably cull from their stock.

Stress Coat is okay, and I like to use it too, but find it can cause excess slime in the tank. For my mini tanks, Stress Guard is cleaner.

Here's a full picture. The other one just showed that fin better.

Also, OP, Give him a little mirror outside his tank, it'll make his color better. He has to have something to show off for.

What's with the black gills? Ammonia?

>>125978

That's normal, too. He's got a little membrane in there that come out when he's making a display. I call it his beard.

looks like it could be.

OP you change ur water right?
>> Anonymous

I already keep a gallon of dechlorinated water around for my hermit crabs, so yeah, I'll be changing his water every few days. I just got him tonight.

I put a compact mirror by his tank, and he does seem more active. Thanks.

Also, OP, Don't put a mirror beside his tank, in addition to him getting prettier he'll stress out

Actually, every once in a while it's good to give them a mirror. Gives them something to do in their bleak, fishbowl lives. Just don't keep it there for long periods at a time or they'll get stressed.
