I don't normally visit /an/ but today I found a bat in my yard and figured you'd like to see the pics I took.

Not sure what kind of bat it is, Animal Control said it was unlike any bat they've seen in the area (Bay Area, California). A friend suspects it's from farther north and came down to avoid winter.

Poor guy was hot as hell I bet, I didn't want to disturb it though so I just took my shots before the ASPCA took it.

That's actually a really good shot, you should be proud of yourself. Pics of animals is hard.

Very cute.

Looks like a Red Hoary bat, but I'm not sure, it's weird for it to be in Califonria though. Most are darker fur.

How big?

Why did animal control take it?
>> Anonymous
bats can carry rabies but i'd still love to have a pet bat

Aww, adorable. I esp like the pics with the flower. Looks like he stopped to smell it...

Bats are cool. They help get rid of mosquitos.

they do a pretty shitty job then

I think of it the other way first. How many more would their be without them. Bats eat literally tons of them a night.

OP Here, they told me this>>79810

So yeah no cute pet, poor thing looked like it was dying anyway, it was especially hot today and we tried to give him some shade in the form of an umbrella but he got scared of it so he had to tough it out till animal control arrived

>>79833
so you called animal control to take the bat?

wtf.
thats like calling them because you found a mouse in your shed. but it'd be good if they actually took care of the damned thing unlike animal control here who don't do shit and is never open.

So can cats and dogs and people! Shouldn't stop you if you really want to tame one. =)

dumbass. bats are WILD animals. they have no been domesticated by heavy breeding like cats and dogs. Bats and skunks are, I believe, the most common animals to HAVE rabies.

bats are wild animals, leave them the fuck alone to eat all the bugs that suck your blood and piss you off.

Shut up all of you

Animal Control said the bat's presence was not natural to the area

It could have been overheated, sick, and needed care

Calling the Animal control was the right thing to do

gb2/bashing people for caring for Knut you fags

OP here again, yeah that was the basic logic.

>>79838
I know bats are quite common in some places but in California, especially in a city, these things are extremely rare, the whole neighborhood came to check him out. I figured Animal Control was the best to call, because no bat rescue group was even close to being local, since bats aren't normally found here.
>> Anonymous
in my area is illegle to kill bats some state law whoha so the only thing to do is call an. control (and thats is now the city police due to buget cuts)
>> Anonymous
>>79883
So your prefered option would be to kill this adorable thing? winged rat it may be but it's still cute
>> Anonymous
well thanks for not beating it with a stick until it's dead like those bitches on youtube
>> Anonymous
>>79946
seconded. kudos to the OP, you did the right thing. Animal Control will check it out and probably either put it down or get another appropriate entity to come fetch it for relocation.

Looks like a flying fox, esp with what you said about the ears. But no idea how big it is as Flying Foxes are big.

This guy was REAL small, like only 3 inch long body. Plus I don't think Flying Foxes are a native Californian species. And correct me if I'm wrong but I think they have a long nose with big eyes, this guy has a pig face with small beady eyes.
