Meet Lobster, the polydactyl wonder! We adopted him today, and he's loved our house and everyone in it so far. He's a real sweetie, with 6 toes on each foot and a very squeaky meow. Now, the problem is, he weighs 18 pounds, which concerns me. What I'd like advice on, is what would be the best and safest ways to control his weight? At the moment we're feeding him some indoor cat formula food (dry) cause that's what we got for free from the SPCA, but what would be some good foods and other means of getting his weight down a little and controlling it?

I read about a woman writing to a column in a magazine, asking about how she could make her cat lose weight. Thus far she had been starving it every other day.. -_-
I've always seen heaps of weight control food at the vets for adult pets, so maybe ask your nearby vet and just make sure you stimulate him a lot.

Hookers and blow. The blow will get his metabolic rate up and the hookers for exercise.

Well according to http://www.catinfo.org/ low fat pet food will actually cause him to become sick and maybe even gain weight, where switching to wet foods will make him healthier and more energetic and help him lose weight. Other than that my number one suggestion is to make sure you're controlling how much food he eats, not just giving him as much as he wants.

Awww. Adorable. Honestly I don't have advice for helping a cat lose weight other than to give it maybe one thing of food a day and lots of water.

According to this site, which was brought up in a topic a few weeks ago, feeding your cat wet food instead of dry food in controlled servings will help with the weight problem.

I also remember someone saying on here before that they helped their cat lose weight by pointing a laser pointer up and down a flight of stairs, which the cat would chase, and eventually it got into the habit of exercising. Just be sure not to aim the laser pointer at the cat's eyes.

I have had cats all my life, and I have yet to find a way to get them to lose weight. We have one now that has a weight issue. We tried putting him on a diet but then he started nipping my mom's nose in the middle of the night.

shitty food is loaded with carbs which naturally represents less than 5% of a cats calories. Those carbs are what turns cats into fatties.

Apparently cats on raw diets maintain a nice lean physique without much effort.

i say give that Science Diet a go, but you want sound advice on the topic? ask yer vet.

If I can get him to be still long enough I'll take some photos. The main problem with getting pics of hid feet is that he fidgets a lot because he's too fat to stay comfortable in one position for long. :\

rat poison and corn fungus

hey fucker, corn fungus is both tasty and expensive, not something to give a misshapen cat to make him loose weight

toss the little freak in a gigant hamster wheel and don't feed him until he walks a few miles, make distance longer until he just does it for the hell of it

cute kitty.
I have a polydactyl, too. 6 fully formed toes per foot, and his back feet look like they were put on the wrong sides.. they're adorable.

Some cats will go crazy over a laser pointer, others won't. Our male cat loves chasing it (even in circles), our female cat ignores it entirely.

BTW, after having the female cat on a low calorie food for quite a while, we started feeding her a high-quality moist food and she's now much more energetic and playful. Before all she did was sleep.
