>>280849 There was a documentary about that picture on TV a week ago, scientists were arguing/trying to find out how it happened, putting reconstruction pictures about how it might have been situated, and showing that with the way the 'gator's legs are positioned that there's no way that it clawed its way out etc. They fed a baby gator to a snake to see if it could even digest the gator's tough hide, and it could. Teeth, armor-like skin, everything was digested.
They seemed to conclude that another alligator had caused the injury to the snake, also that the particular alligator that the snake ate was previously injured, hence the lack of resistance. In the end they said it must've been due to two alligators fighting, the snake picked one off and the other that was still in the area at some point came back and since the snake couldn't move with its heavy load, suffered the fate you see in the picture.
