What's the easiest, most self contained, most forgiving, don't-give-a-fuck-about-my-owner pet there is?

I'm talking, like, a moving cactus, some weeds with eyes. But real. What's the easiest possible pet ever to care for under any conditions?

holy shit.
Cutest fucking picture.

Also, it really has to do with the personality of the animal just as much as the species.

OK, some good suggestions so far. How about animals that live in tanks? ANy kinds of fish or turtle that are easy?

Bettas are probably the simplest fish.

Turtles will not be easy. Do not get a turtle.

Had a turtle once before when I had more free time, realised after a year I had been feeding it double the reccommended amount and it was almost as big as a dinner plate. After a good few years of aquarium upgrading I gave it to a friend to live in a pond and it lives on to this day. I remember she once managed to bite me and draw blood, causing many bricks to be shat. How the fuck was this accomplished?

Spoilers: Cute little baby red eared sliders get ten inches long. That growth was totally normal. The only reason other peoples' turtles don't get that large is because their growth is stunted by poor diets, insufficient lighting, and cramped cages.

Huge aquarium, right next to a huge window and a windowed door in a sunny garden in australia, feeding double the amount of meat chunks the packet told me to. Looks like Tracy had the perfect conditions for growing :3

hermit crabs are pretty easy to care for

Good for you. It's horrible to see how many people buy quarter-sized turtles, stick them in a dish, and wonder why they never do anything but sit there. They're so awesome to watch when they're healthy and active.

YES! I had these once, they were fuckwin. I loved the way they switched shells sometimes, although they were a little nippy at first.

I remember once going on holiday and leaving 10 goldfish in the tank with her. When I got back from holiday she had 3 left. I was pretty impressed.

I've always owned turtles. My ex took up my passion and got more. ...Then started making the habit of going to the flea market and buying quarter-sized babies. Soon I had two walls covered in turtles. Of course they became a huge hassle.

She stopped liking turtles very quickly.

It became my sole responsibility to care for them. And then when we divorced, guess who got "those filthy things"? We had 20 by the time that happened, and I did not get all of them. Going by her usual threats of "if these aren't cleaned when I get home I'm throwing them in the canal", and the ones she particularly hated were not given to me, she must've pitched them in and left me with the rest.

I still have 11.

I can say with certainty that though I do love my turtles, 4 betta fish are easier to care for than 1 turtle.

My ex (a guy) bought two of these turtles. And left them with me when we broke up. They were pretty damn big. I gave them to a guy who had tons of really happy looking reptiles, because I felt like they were bored. And they hated me. =(
