Cat had his rabies shots? Cat rabies is more common than dog rabies as cats generally aren't vaccinated. The excessive licking could be a sign of pain and irritation. The collars are easy enough to make with a dollar (at the most I hope) posterboard setup. If you're too cheap to buy that, shoot yourself. It can easily be cut to fit any size. Putting peroxide in a wound is debatable. I know at my mother's hospital they stopped doing that as it can force debri deeper in. And the flesh it's 'eaten off'. Sniff the wound. Does it stink? If no, neoporin and put collar on. If yes, put collar on. Take syringe, irrigate with water. Add some iodine salution to wound, neosporin. Keep and eye and your nose on the wound. If it doesn't get better...take it to the vet or to a shelter to give to someone who can pay for it. Also..keep an eye out for movement in the wound. You have maggot botflies (usually hordes of them)..and warbles (single maggot) to worry about. Newly hatched warbles are hard to see and don't give the pouches the squirrel exhibits.
