My black cat, Percy.

And just so this is not totally pointless, is it a myth that black cats are generally less amiable than other cats or did I get stuck with an odd demon? My father and grandmother frequently comment on how black cats have "bad genes" and are therefore more feral, and to be honest, Percy is a little feral cat, despite being spoiled rotten with pettings (which he doesn't really like much) and gooshy food (which he gets a minimal amount of, but twice a day).

Do post your black cats, /an/. ;3

Cat colors are not cat breeds. You can't assume an animal's disposition based on its color. So, your grandparents are retarded.

My bad. "European" black cats. Mixed breeds. Percy is not purebred, and the vet just put him down as "european" when he got his vaccines.

My point remains the same. You can't tell anything about an animal's disposition based on its fur color.

I've had two black cats.. one was really protective of the family and attacked a dog that growled at me. The other grew up with me and passed away a few years ago, and he was very, very sweet.

give her a few years

I have a formerly feral cat who would pitch a fight if you touched her at all to jumping on your lap and purring so hard she drools

but she still hisses and shits if you touch her when she wants to be alone

I used to have a black cat that started out feral, he just showed up at my house with what we assumed was his sister on halloween night. He was the nicest cat ever, it really sucked that he got mange and died about 6 months ago.

It's a myth. I've got two black cats, one is "normal", in that she likes petting, but in certain ways, and not all the time, etc etc, the other is the tamest cat ever, a total slut, the slightest touch will result in her rolling over to show belly and you can pick her up and turn her over and do whatever the fuck and she'll just flop there purring and blinking.
My third cat, who's white, is the most "feral" of the three and while he likes his ears scratched and stuff, he won't tolerate much interference before he takes a swipe at you. Pictured is the slut, basking.

Curiouser and curiouser!

Anyway, buddy of mine had a black cat back when he was living with his mother still. He (the cat) was the most amiable thing ever. Used to sit on my lap and nap a little.

Well it could also be that my lap's apparently extra warm and soft, but anyway. And the cat was mostly black, not entirely black (had some white on his underside, can you flipping believe that). But it'd be a tough proposition to say that animals' temperament was somehow connected to their colouring.

I (more acurrately, a roommate) has a grey cat that I CAN'T fucking startle. The first time I showed her a power-drill, she just sniffed it and went about her business: note that I had the drill going full blast while she sniffed it.
