okay /an/ I'll explain this as best I canlast night I found my brother's rat in a tube and it wouldn't come out. Well we finally got it out and it was just kind of rolling around. It is not walking straight anymore, but walking with its head tilted so one eye is aiming right at the ground. The eye it's looking at the ground with has a white film over it, and upon further inspection, when I would go at it with my finger it wouldn't close its eye. In conclusion, it's quite obviously blind, and it's lurching like it because it's blind. Okay.Well, the eye that's not blind is bulging out. A lot more than normal. I assume it's just from stress. But the rat won't eat either, once again I assume it's just from stress/shock. Well I don't know what to do /an/. It's obviously blind in one eye, and there is some red crusty stuff around its nose, I don'tk now if it's blood or not. I assume there's no way to make it not blind again.. but what should I do?Just to recap again because I know I went off on some tangets there, it's blind in one eye and lurching around with its good eye aiming at the sky, which is bulging out. It won't eat, or even open its mouth at all, only squeals. Its top teeth are an orange color and there is some red crusty stuff around its nosewhat's wrong with it?
>>319260do you think the other symptoms would be cause by the stress of losing the ability to see through an eye?
Wait you're saying it's blind in one eye and you think there might be blood? You think it might be in shock? Maybe stress? It's blind in one eye right?
>>319264Yes i'm about 100% sure it's blind in its right eye
The red stuff is probably porphyrin, it shows up around a rat's eyes/nose if it's stressed. It ain't blood.Being ratarded, though, that's all I can help you with. Take it to a vet regardless.
>>319264That "blood" is not actually blood. More than likely it's porphyrin. Still, not a good sign. Usually a sign of stress and/or sickness. The fact that one eye is bulging out makes me think that the rat has an infection that's causing swelling and pressure in its head. Take the poor thing to the vet.
