Siams are very social cats and tend to be affectionate / sometimes clingy. But in the end it's a question of the cats individual character.
I have a tomecat who's like your cat, only he's half Main Coon (pic related). His favourite place is my shoulder, he tries to climb or jump onto it all the time. He also follows me into the restroom and sleeps on my chest at night. Now he's 6, and it got slightly better -- he sleeps more and isn't as much attention seeking as before. He can be a bit annoying sometimes, but he's still the very best cat I ever met.
If you want your cat to be a bit more independent, try distractions, like toys, other cats, hiding food around your house.... also, ignore him from time to time, so you don't encourage his attention seeking behaviour (crying, throwing things down, scratching things).
