Hello /an/,
I hereby humbly request your assistance.
I usually cut my cat's nails (always to the correct length) but I had failed to spot this particular nail growing a little hidden in the fur.
It worries me quite a bit, because it seems way too curved and odd.
I am planning on taking my cat to the vet to have it checked out, but I would really like to know if there is something wrong with it. I appreciate any help you can provide /an/!

it's just the cat equivalent of a thumb...kind of like a dog's dew claws.

As long as it's not infected, or the end isn't sticking into the cat's flesh, just trim like the others.

It's weird looking like your pinkie toes, know what I mean?

Can I cut it like a normal nail? I don't see the pink flesh like the others so how much should I cut??

It looks to me like a button held between the cat's toes for the picture to be taken.

OP here, you're right, it does look like a button!
That's why it freaked me out, but I'm gonna try cutting it and posting a pic.

As long as you don't cut into a vein (which I don't see there,) I wouldn't worry. Just cut it down but not too far. Keep it reasonable. That claw doesn't seem to have a vein in it, but don't take it down to the quick, leave a little.

The vein looks like it has reseeded (which might be why the nail grew so thick). I would just cut it so that the nail doesn't curl more or run the risk of growing into the flesh. check to see if it is infected though. Also, that's called a dewclaw for future reference.

OP here,
been trying to cut my cat's dewclaw (yay I'm learnin) but she gets all fuzzy and starts squirming and she moves so much that I can't cut the nail for fear of hurting her :/
So this friday I shall take her to the vet and have him cut the nails and check them out! So if the thread is still alive by then, I'll have an update and a pic.

Jesus christ dont you let your cat scratch at all? Nails should not get that bad naturally unless your cat is a gimp and can't/won't scratch properly
