Any aquarium fags out there?

My shrimp keep dying, what am i doing wrong? I have both a ten gallon and a 30 gallon tank. Originally, in my 10 gal with no light or heater my shrimp did very well, i had asian filter shrimp (bamboo or wood shrimp they are also called) and ghost (skeleton) shrimp. After purchasing my 30 gal (this time with a light) i moved both species into there. About 2 weeks after they all died. I though it was nitrite poisoning so i bought a de-toxifier (takes care of chlorine, chloramine, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate) and tests. The tests showed no signs of anything wrong, but don't test for ammonia so i de-toxified anyway. I just bought indian dwarf shrimp (very similiar to ghost) and they too perished this time within 12 hours of purchasing them. I started with 5 and now have 1. They were in the tank with a male and female betta in the 10 gal, but so were my original shrimp which lasted for over 2 months in the same tank, before being moved to the larger one. What the heck is going on?????

i think the store might be doing it wrong.

I don't know how you kill those things. I have some in a neglected 10 gal and the they refuse to die.

This? Ammonia is more deadly than nitrites. Also, did you add any copper sulfate (ingredient in parasite/fungus cures/preventatives)? What about aquarium salt? If your tank isn't completely cycled, attempt that before you add shrimp again.

This also might be your problem. If you didn't let your tank cycle, and detoxified the ammonia, you're probably starving the beneficial bacteria in your filter, killing them off, making your tank recycle over and over. What else do you have in the tank? If you don't have anything, in my opinion, you should drain the tank, clean everything, then refill it and put two or three fish in there and just let it sit, doing 10% water changes weekly for 6-8 weeks. Then you can add shrimp again.

Shrimps get killed by ammonia and copper. So cycle your tank and dont use copper anywhere near your tank.
Also, do you use Excel for plants? I have lost entire population of cherry shrimps due to Excel.

i don't think used any copper..... does SeaChem have copper in it? i read the bottle it just said its some kind of hydrosulfate...

i detoxified... so i don't know how ammonia could be it....

my orginial shrimp were in a non-detoxcified tank (i hadn't ever used chemicals)

and my most recents ones were in a tank treated with seachem

also Prime by seachem, which is what i use removes heavy metals
