Hi, /an/

This is my first time coming here, but I think I need some help. I woke up this morning to find my cat's entire lower jaw to be incredibly swollen and puffy. It doesn't seem to hurt her, and it hasn't stopped her from eating, drinking, or biting/nipping at things, and she doesn't have problems breathing (as near as I can tell, no wheezing or anything), but it's really bugging me.

She's probably about nine months to a year old by now, and she's always been rather sleek and trim. But this morning I woke up and her lower jaw was thick and swollen. Did she bite something that made her lower jaw swell? Does she have an infection or something? Is it just some kind of weird cat allergy? I'd appreciate any help at all, /an/.

Chances are it's just an allergic reaction, she probably was playing/biting at a spider or bug and it just chomped at her lower jaw, that's all. It may be an abcessed tooth, though, so if the swelling doesn't go down after a few days I'd take her to see a vet.

Check any houseplants you may have to see if there's bite marks on the leaves or etc. Has the cat thrown up today? Even if those signs aren't present, it could very well be a reaction to something. Many plants disagree with kitties.

Is it an outside cat? If so, there's no telling what they might have got into; could've been a fight with a neighbor cat, or maybe it was stung by an insect. Also, while uncommon, it could be a bad tooth infection -- it'll need to get removed (this happened to a cat of mine). In any case, if the swelling doesn't go down in a day, I'd take the cat to a vet.
