My juvenile bearded dragon is currently basking on his piece of drift wood and hes holding his right leg in the air. He doesent appear to be ill or injured or anything, is this something to worry about?

pic related but not mine

is it "waving?"
>> Anonymous
no he just kinda had it up there. He waves with his front legs sometimes though, Ive only seen him to it like twice in the past 3 days. Got him about 5 days ago btw

well waving with the front legs is an act of submission not sure about the hind leg, maybe it just lifts it because its more comfortable that way?

Hmm i see. Yeah he just put it back down. But hes just laying there on the drift wood with it up. Not anymore tho

On an unrelated note, does your beardie get enough water?
I used to have a juvenile bearded dragon, but he died of dehydration because he wouldn't drink, and needed to be set in his water bowl.
Just looking out for a fellow BD owner

yeah i feed him it with a dropper. Im trying to get him to drink it out of a little dish but hes not doing it. Any tips?

I've never acutally seen beardies drink from a dish, but both my beardies will drink from their tub when bathing. I started just by cupping water in my hand then letting it drip in front of them, the same as a dropper. Once they got the idea after a few times, they started drinking by themselves.

His foot likely got too hot.

Not OP, but also a new beardie owner. The lady recommended alfalfa pellets but they were ugly and smelly. Today I replaced it with the calcisand stuff. It smells like flintstone's tablets, which is much nicer. He seems to enjoy it since he's just been licking it for the past half hour. He stopped a little while ago but I think he's doing it again. The package says it's safe for him to eat and nutritious though /:|. He seems to like to lick everything. I figure it's his way of exploring. Picture related

Also, she didn't know if he was a girl or a boy, so I've just assumed him a boy :/ How can I tell?

they use it help cool down, and some start to do it out of habit. My dragon, Moses, used to do it too.

This is monkey, he likes corm

It says that it fights impaction though on the package

It's called Vita-sand, by the way. I don't like the idea of carpet or lamination though, so we're thinking of big rocks? I like how the sand looks and he really likes digging in it

I know. And all the sand reviews on the product reviews are either positive (the person used the sand and liked it, no impaction problems) or negative(person never used the sand, is just saying IMPACTION because it's sand) so Im' confused :/

Everyone on the BD forums will tell you "sand is bad, take it out now!!!" but both of my beardies have grown up on sand/coconut husk and there were no problems at all.
They both live on tile now, but they've got a sandpit in the back to play with, and that's usually where they hang out.

That sounds like a good idea, really. When I get him a bigger tank (he's in a 20 gallon right now) within the next couple months I'll probably go with something similar.
