Looks pretty badass for decoration..

But nothing else.
You can probably keep a cricket in it as a pet.

Human to dog crate and fish to decorative bowl is not the same ratio. Isn't it more like letting a shut-in live in a small room?

Can we define "suitable environment"?
>> Anonymous
>>165958
The fact that people don't bring their fish back to Petco means absolutely nothing. Personally, when my fish die, I flush them. I figured most people did.

Also, the fact you fought your bettas says all that needs to be said about your opinion.

good job there, fishbulb

cool, op, where can i get 1

>till I got bored and decided to fight them

Your opinion on animals no longer matters as of this sentence.
>> Anonymous
>>165978
why? they'd fight with or without his help
>> Anonymous
>>165986
No, they wouldn't fight unless put together by him. Once a human instigates a fight between animals, it's cruelty. But of course, there's always the uneducated twats who think fish can't feel pain.
>> Anonymous
>>165990
no, he simply removed a man made obstacle between them, they would fight naturally. You can't cause cruelty by replicating natural conditions.
>> Anonymous
>>165992
Yes you can be when it's a domestic animal that was bred in captivity and does not exist in the wild (ever seen a frilly betta swimming wildly in Thailand? No, they're completely different naturally). If he removes the barrier between them, he's still changing something and causing something to happen which brings them together.

>>165994

It's a fucking fish, doing what they fucking do naturally.

Cry moar.
>> Anonymous
>>165990

Of course I know that they can feel pain. Anyway, if it makes all you Petafags feel better, I put all 5 of them in the toilet but I guess the water was too cold or something, cuz they didn't really fight that much. LOL one was actually trying to get away! So after about 10 minutes of boring, I just flushed them all.

If thats a fighting fish like it looks to me they do well in a bowl that size. In fact its probably better fr the males ( looks like a male) to be alone cause theyll kill each other.
>> Kotone !bQXLaktCGc
This thread sucks dick.

MALE BETTAS in particular, enjoy their own (SMALL) territory, by themselves. Get the fuck over it. Sure they can live in bigger spaces, but they can live in these small ones just fine, too. That's not to say that all fish are like this, but this particular species because of it's territoriality and aggressiveness towards other bettas, enjoys it's own space.

Leave the poor guy alone. :P

what petco do you fucking work at? mine averages maybe 30-35 bettas a week. and we're the number 73 aquatics store in the country (mostly from saltwater sales though)
>> Anonymous
>>166672

Just as a comparison, I worked for a tiny, shitty pet store in bumfuck Ohio about five years ago, which was probably about the size of your average one-bedroom apartment. We sold on average 60-70 bettas a week.

lol wut?

>>166672
Yeah...uh. I've frequented the local Petsmart enough, and one of my friends used to work there, and I know for a fact that that they don't sell anywhere near 150-200 bettas...Maybe this person lives in some crazy town were bettas are bought and sold like drugs.

>>166686
My Petco has around 50 just piled up on top of each other.
>> Anonymous
Male bettas enjoy their own space!!11!1

Yes, there are several species of animals that prefer to be alone. Just because they're solitary doesn't mean you can keep them in the TINIEST SPACE POSSIBLE.
>> Kotone !bQXLaktCGc
>>166688
What sucks worse is that after such a stressful trip to get to the pet store, they put all of the male bettas right next to each other. Yeaah, great idea, guys. Enjoy ur stressed as fuck crazy fish.

in the racks at petco there are dividers between the fish. they can't see each other
>> Anonymous
At my petco when I bought my betas they had them in plastic bowls right next to each other no dividers. They were all in a big stack on top of one of the fish tanks. Also I tried putting a beta in a big tank he just picked a spot up front the size of one of those bowls and swam in circles so the bowl is not bad for these specific fish
>> Anonymous
>>166921
On one hand, big open blank spaces of water stress them out.
On the other hand, tiny little bowls = shorter lifetime because they get no exercise and its harder for them to ward off disease and infection.
>> Anonymous
That's why you should put plants in your tank, so they can hide.
A bowl is unhygienic, the fish is literally swimming in his own feces, which is not healthy of course.
Small tank + plants + filter are optimal.

>>166840
I've never seen those dividers before. That's good, but...Probably only a few stores nationwide actually do that. I've never seen it at Petco OR Petsmart. The closest I've seen at Petsmart is them being kept like 5 inches apart.
>> Anonymous
I've also never seen those dividers that keep the bettas apart at the store. It sounds like a damn good idea to me.
Did you notice that at the store all the bettas look dead when there IS no divider? They're giving up fighting after a while.

My guy is in a 2 gallon tank. My family's is in a 3 gallon, which I think is way damn too big. Although he's getting sick anyway because they don't clean his tank, I've got no clue what's wrong with him.
>> Anonymous
>>167081
Nitrite poisoning.
He's swimming in his own shit and that kills him.
Water change helps.
>> Anonymous
>>167081
They should be thoroughly cleaning his tank at LEAST once every two weeks.
>> Anonymous
Every two weeks?

I clean out my beta's tank every few days. The thing has lived for a little over four years now.
>> Anonymous
>>167100
I meant it as a minimum, not as a rule.
People who don't clean their betta's tanks at all are just...argh.
