What is the best way to put a sick fish out of it's misery ?
>> tigerfeather !CrwtTbFNxQ
You can either whack it real hard against something, like with it in a plastic bag with no water, or you can freeze it overnight in a little bit of water.

fishcubes, definitely. it sounds fun!

Dump bleach in the tank.

I'm going to break with tradition and answer you seriously. Remove the fish to a smaller container than your quarantine tank and slowly add carbonated water until the fish stops breathing.

well, you can slice it's head off (cut just behind the gill plate), wham it against the wall as above said, a humane way is to buy aquatic anesthetic (somethingsomething-22) and OD miss/mister fishy. or, the freezer method is another viable option. place it in a small cup of water in the fridge for a few hours and then into the freezer until it's a fishcube

Flush it down the toilet. Not only will it get over its sickness, with all the sewage and feces, it'll mutate into a powerful fish monster. I'd keep one eye open while you sleep though... that fish will probably return for vengeance.

If you freeze it, its probably going to reanimate on thaw. So if your trying to be "nice" to it, just cut off its head or carbonated water.

You could go about it like the professionals do and use the iki-jime technique. (NOT to be confused with the Kuso-miso Technique)

For future reference, freezing can hurt a fish because it will feel the ice crystals forming in its body as it tries to move.

The least painful way to put a fish to sleep is to quarantine it, then add some clove oil to the water. Clove oil is used as a sedative for fish undergoing surgeries, so using a bit of clove oil will put the fish to sleep, and a bit more will send it to the "big sleep" without hurting it.

I had a goldfish that was really ill with no chance of recovering, so I ended up asking a local vet since the fish had suffered enough with its ailments. (hematomas, no swim bladder control, a fungus that ate its fins--as hard as I tried, nothing helped it)

Thanks about the oil of clove. I knew it was used for dental numbing, but this makes sense to spare any unnecessary pain.

I meant cheetahs.

Most painless thing IMO is to use a hammer.
