Two Hamsters Anonymous
heyyyyy I want some advice. I've had 3 hamsters before, all Syrian, and have never been bitten or anything. They've all been great. Well, the one female I had was kind of a bitch, so I won't be getting a female again... but besides that.

I want to get two hamsters though and I know that Syrians should NEVER be kept together. So I'm looking at Dwarfs. I want two male Dwarfs that will be kept together. Apparenetly sometimes they wont get along anyways and need to be kept seperate, and they also should preferably be in the same bloodline. So my questions are...

1. How are dwarfs, do you like them?

2. Do they have nice short hair or are they that ugly long hair bullshit.

3. Anyone who has kept two dwarfs together... how did it go? Did they fight? Did they get along good?

4. Where is a good place to find two males who are in the same bloodline? I dont like Petco or Petland because thats like buying electronics from Walmart... they dont know SHIT! How can I find a breeder who's knows their stuff?

THANK YOU. any advice is welcome.

1) Depends on the dwarf (chinese, russian, winter white, and robovski or whatever are the choices i think you have, some can't be kept together but some can, my hamster lore is rusty)

2) pretty sure all dwarves are short-haired

3) i had two chinese dwarves together when i was really little and i don't remember them fighting ever. they were females but perfectly mellow little critters.

4) first, do your research online and know exactly what you want and what you're going to look for as far as health, etc. this includes scoping out the animals' habitats (and that'll apply for a store or a home breeder). once you know what to look for, it won't matter whether you go to a big chain pet store, a mom and pop place, or get them from some dumb shit little kid breeding animals for the "experience." every place is different - not every private breeder is awesome, and not every big pet store chain is complete shit.

Winter White Dwarves (P. sungorus) are solitary animals like Syrians, and are often confused with Campbells and Chinese, so be careful. Roborovskis are social, less nippy than Campbells, and also have a longer average lifespan but are less available in the U.S..

Normal dwarves are nippy and I have heard you should keep alone, as they do not socialize well with another hamster. Roborovskis, on the other hand love to have a partner hamster.

I have two female roborovskis, and while they aren't thrilled with being handled, they don't bite and are very loving towards each other. Great pets.

I had a Dwarf hamster. One day I poked him in his cage and he was dead.
