Dear /an/,

I saved a stray kitten from the middle of the road during traffic, is this awesome? Y/N

Also, I have no idea how to take care of kittens, I got some milk and kitten food, how do I wash it? My friend is getting some no tear baby shampoo from her house since I heard that is good.

Need orphan kitten tips, halp plz

Picture semi-related.

Not cow's milk, right?

Nope, it's milk for kittens I picked up in the cat aisle.

Get yourself the essentials - grab yourself some sort of litterbox, and separate food and water bowls. If the cat is old enough, merely placing the cat on the litterbox will give it an idea of what to do, and you might do well to lock the cat up in a tiled area you can clean easily, such as the bathroom, until the kitten knows how to use it.

For a cat bed, old flannel will do fine.

Food, litterbox, and toys are pretty much the basics. You'll want to get her? him? in to see a vet if you can, since most strays will have fleas/worms/etc. If you're not prepared to pay for vet bills, then you should probably take it to a rescue organization (cat rescues are very easy to find via Google) or to a shelter.

If you really need to wash it, just make sure the water is lukewarm, no shampoo around the eyes, and plenty of thorough drying afterwards.

Yeah I just washed her a bit and she's much cleaner, she does have a few fleas, I hope they don't spread to my dog, we just got rid of his :/

He keeps trying to burrow into little corners and things like that so I set him up inside a decent sized shoebox with a bunch of handtowels in it and one towel covering 3/4ths of the top and she seems to be doing well with that.

What should I expect for vet bills? $20-$40 for at least most of what she needs vet wise is fine with me, but anything more than that is just more than I'm willing to spend right now. A friend told me of a cat vet place that will do all of that for about $25 she said but had to get the name and address for me later. What's the normal vet price?

Yeah I might put her up in the bathroom or see if I can't find a bigger box for her to stay in while I'm working.

She doesn't seem to like me very much and her and my dog aren't getting along at all, I hope this can work out. I am definitely not a cat person but I've never given them a chance, really.

Wish me luck~

Vet prices goes from this onwards if you have a completely feral kitten that's never seen a vet in its life:

Desexing: $50 ~ (depending on whether you take it to a shelter that has an inhouse vet. It's important for cats to be desexed: males spray urine around the house if they are not desexed, and females caterwaul while in heat, which literally sounds like a barmy kid yowling.)

Shots: 4 shots exist for cats: The "F4" vaccine, Feline distemper, feline leukaemia and rabies. The F4 is usually the only required vaccine, with the others being entirely optional if it's going to be an indoor cat and/or the vaccine is not applicable in your area.

The F04 vaccination is for basically all sorts of miscellaneous diseases, including cat flu. It has to be taken twice as a kitten. After that, a booster shot is required once a year for the rest of the cat's life.

Each shot costs around $28~.

Worming: $15~ (depends on the price of the tablet or paste. You need to worm kittens at least monthly, and after 5 months or so, about once every 3 months).

Generally, most vets have a package deal in which all appropriate kitten stuff is done at a round $50~$100 depending on area, especially if it's a shelter vet. Ask around.

I guess kittens will do that?
