/an/, I've got a question. Sometimes, when I'm working, my cat will come up to me, start meowing her head off until I start petting her. Then her tail will start twitching like nuts (not sweeping side to side, but quivering) until I get up to follow her. When I do, she jets back to my room and sits on my bed, meowing until I come in, then she settles down.

This is particularly prominent when I have friends over too.

Can /an/ tell me the why behind kitty behavior?

Oh, and she's my first cat and only about a year old.

It sounds like she likes your company :) My cat will be sleeping on the floor sometimes, but as soon as I get into my bed, she jumps up and settles down next to me. I think some cats just like you being near them.

your cat is haunted

Simple, the cat is trying to seduce you.

My cat does the same thing...and she has kittens to she wants me to hang out around the little cage she keeps them in.

Just Remember, a cat is fine too.

While on the topic of odd kitty behaviors, can /an/ tell me if all cats do the rabbit kicking thing? My cat grabs onto things like towels with his forepaws and really rips into it with his hind legs.

He goes especially nuts if it's a used towel, not like soaking wet, but damp.

YOu mean when they lay on their sides or back and attack it with their hind legs? That's normal

That's how they kill prey not dispatched by their claws alone. They grab hold with their front arms and flay it to death with the back ones.

Feels really good when they get a little too carried away and do that on your shins/calves. Trust me on this.

A cat I used to live with would lay hidden amongst our shoes/boots and ambush people headed to the john. Sometimes if we had people over (we were 5 people who lived in that condo, student thing) and she had achived great success a few times, she'd go nuts whenever I came out into the hallway. She ruined two pairs of jeans and a pair of shorts (!). God, that cat was cool.

My cats do it to the edge of a rug. I come down every morning, and the rug is pushed into a pile by their attempts to kill it in the night.

That tail-shaking thing is normal. One of my cats does it too. Not all cats do it much, but I've had others that did.

Really? I thought domestic cats killed with a deadly bite to the spine/head area.

I would imagine killing it like that would be extremely messy.

My kitty does almost all of those things, plus one more.
Whenever I go sit on the potty to have a dump, she'll come running with a meow, like to say "wait, don't start without me". Then she gets there and does the rub up against the legs thing. I pet her a little and scoot her out so I can finish.
Weird cat.

I think she's saying "stop working/hanging with your friends and come cuddle in bed with me!"

that tail shaking thing is a way of scent marking.but i don't think spayed and neutered cats can produce the scent.they do it anyway.one of my female cats did it once and peed up my leg.i shout at them for trying it now.i say "DONT you scent mark me fucker! lol

As little that I know about cats at this point, there's an interesting thing there. I'm pretty sure most, if not all of them do it.

It comes from the way they fight or attack prey. They use their back claws to rip out the enemy's stomach. Nice.

But nevertheless it';s cute when they do it in play. My cat Lucy does it all the time but not very hard.

My cat stretches all the time when she rubs up against people. She'll rub up against them then, while still standing, extend a leg outwards to her rear. She's done it for ages and I find it awesome! Miss that cat as she has to live with my sister (no cats allowed at my current place).

My cat does the same thing with a touch less meowing, and unfortunately for some reason she likes to lead me towards the laundry and flop on the mat in there. I suspect that's because it's the door we usually enter when we come home.

Anyway, she just wants your attention and knows you're giving it to others instead of her. It's like the cat sitting on the newspaper page you're trying to read at the time as a subtle hint.

As for the tail quivering, my cat does it too, but has never sprayed. I can't work it out either apart from yet another attention whoring technique.

I've had kitties who do that dance, too. It's just they're excited and wanna claim their territory, much like what was associated with marking territory. And you are her human. Expect to do her bidding. :D

Whoa, cats usually spray when they do this? Then I'm extra-glad she doesn't.

Yeah, if you ever see a male cat think about doing this to you, especially if they're not neutered, I would suggest moving.

My cat does the same thing. He's very funny about it, he has sections of the house designated as "lovey" zones. When he wants you to pet him he'll meow and quiver his tail to get your attention, then run off to whatever area he's decided is your lovey area.

It's funny not only is the area different for different people, he gets all pissy if you try to pet him outside your own area and runs off.

Just normal crazy cat behavior imo.
