I have an incredibly moody Alaskan Malamute. One minute he's the sweetest dog in the world and the next he's a raging jerk towards my other dog (a husky) and he gets angry at me despite being submissive when he isn't angry. Both dogs are a little over a year old and have grown up together since being small puppies (the husky was introduced to the house when he was 2.5 months old and the mal was 5.5 months) and have gotten along very well until recently when the mal has been acting up.

Any suggestions to regain control and dominance over him when he is angry (without getting bitten would be nice) as well as ideas on helping the dogs get along. I'll be around all night to answer questions about the issue as well.

Pic related, their alaskan malamutes.

they're* whoa.

Also forgot to mention it's about 90% of the time the malamute is great and 10% he's a jerk...so it's a fairly random problem with no visible trigger.

remove his balls. it will make him easier to control and make him less aggressive and dominant.

already done. husky still has his, though.

no such thing as a random problem, pay closer attention to the pattern of causes and behaviours and figure it out from there. how old is the malamute? could it be creeping senility? where do you live? could it be heat induced? do you relate them differently than you used to so you've fucked up the dominance dynamic between them?

if all else fails take it to a vet to get checked for medical problems.

Maybe the malamute has penis envy.

I know i'd be pretty pissed off if i lost my balls but that other guy still had his :(

read original post. Mal is only a year and 4 months old and is in perfect health (just had his yearly checkup on the 9th). Both get the same treatment, except recently I've been opening my bedroom door for the husky to hide out in because he's scared to sleep alone in the other room with the mal...but it hasn't been an uncommon for him to sleep in the bedroom while the mal sleeps on the tile. Husky sometimes gets walked once or twice more per day as I can't leave him tied up in the backyard (mal's favorite hang out...sometimes it's tough to get him to come in) because he can't wear a collar for the remainder of the summer because he had a hot spot and the mal sees him going out while he's tied up out back.

I've considered the possibility being that due to the husky needing to be walked, the mal is never in the house alone (that's when he's at his sweetest) and that bugs him. I'm looking into a solution for that but I don't know what I could do.

thought of that. originally considered it as a possibility but it hasn't been a problem until recently.

Easy, the Malamute is jealous that the Husky is being walked. Besides, he was there FIRST. If the husky would have been a female, then he would have been okay with her. I have a Malamute and he pretty much loves everyone.

However, when my fiance took me to live at his apartment, leaving my malamute with my parents (he was originally to be my mom's, but he bonded with me and my dad over her) he started treating my fiance like an asshole. He realized pretty quickly that when my fiance arrived that I was taken away. Resenting this, my Malamute is an asshole to my fiance.

Yet when I go see him, he's submissive and whining.

Oh, and he hates my parents retarded dog.

They both get walked (we run, actually) regularly...just the husky gets one or two more because he can't stay outside on his own like the mal can.

I just need a more effective way to break him down in all situations, making him submit when he is in attack mode is very difficult because he is super strong and I don't think I could handle getting bitten by my own dog just because he got angry and lost control (I know at that point it really isn't his fault).

I want to prevent the anger from even starting or to prevent him from even thinking for a second about getting aggressive with me.

He is totally sweet with everyone else, even strangers, he just tries funny stuff every once in a while with me.

I swear this works... if your dog bites you... bite it back. It won't bite you again unless it's just fucking retarded. Communicate with them on their level and it gets across much easier (and no... I don't go around biting my dog... never had that problem out of mine... but my dad's dog liked to bite... now that thing fucking worships me... lol... j/k)

me again. Just fucking with you. I agree that it could be a jealousy thing. I wish you the best of luck.
