Oh, and if you feel like getting a wild animal for a pet 'because it's ZOMG so cute' you need to grow the fuck up or kill yourself. In fact, getting any pet just because 'it's cute' and nothing else pretty much guarantees you're going to mistreat and get bored with the poor thing, or be ill-prepared to take care of it and will eventually be one of those lovely braintrusts who releases them back into the wild, albeit in an environment they don't know how to survive in.

Again, you're a fucking idiot.

No, being an ass is saying 'hey this fox is so kyuute let's get one' and not knowing how in the hell to handle such an animal. If the OP had merely said 'I think these are so cute' there would be no problem, but suggesting getting a pet just because of that, with no other consideration is the stupidest thing I've read on all of 4chan. And I've seen it happen MUCH too often on /an/, which seems to be a gathering of 13 year old spoiled girls looking for pet foxes and bobcats cause they're just 'TOO KYUTE'.

I completely agree, which is why ferrets are outlawed in much of the U.S. But then again, I, my self, would very much like to raise a ferret, they can be very intellegent and affectionate animals when bought from a legal and legit source, and, they must be care for correctly. =/ If you can take care of one, if it's legal, and, if you will make sure to not just 'lose interest' in the animal, then...go for it. :]

I think we can agree that most people who simply find animals 'cute' don't have anywhere near that level of dedication though. :D;

I was just trying to set down a little reality in this thread before someone goes off trying to catch one of these as a pet.

It's an ermin, they are in the same family, but so are otters. Not a ferret. Ermin do turn solit white in the winter. So cute!

The only point in keeping ferrets is for rabbit hunting. If an animal can't do any useful work, it doesn't belong at home. People are getting more and more stupid every year about "pets."

You people need to read before you write. Ferrets are thouroughly domesticated and many varieties are now completely unsuitable for hunting of any sort.

To the former poster, the reason ferrets are outlawed in many places in the US is because elected officals with no knowledge of biology make laws. Ferrets are listed as 'wild animals' even though they have been domesticated for over 1000 years and have, just like dogs, cats, and cows, no wild counterparts (though they can successfully interbreed with European polecats, although the hybrids are rarely fertile).

To the latter poster, human companionship is a function. Cats and dogs don't usually do anything 'useful' in homes, though I would suspect you would not approve of a 'useless' dog or cat being kept either. I don't expect to change your mind because you're clearly laboring under ideals that are radically divergent from those of most other people, but you should consider that domesticated animals are human inventions and as such we are the ones who define their uses, whether it is mousing, hunting, or just sitting around being pretty.

You ARE being an ass and you can't read.

>>Is this a kind of Ferret if so can you tell me what type and if I can get one or if not what it is its so cute!!

The OP didn't know what animal it was, which is why he/she was asking about it. YOU assumed that the OP wanted a wild animal because it was "cute". Stop being a little bitch and apologize.

Putting aside the comments of the juvenile delinquent, No that is not a picture of a ferret but it is a member of the same family.

There are several different species of ferrets, some bigger than others and some with longer hair. You'de have to do some research as to what your state will allow.

Ferrets can be really good pets. They're a little high on the maintenance and I've found that they're better in pairs than they are alone (something to keep in mind). They really need to be out of their cage everyday; but I found that this is a benefit for me as much as them. I sit on the floor and read the paper while they play. They remind me of furry little snakes on crack :)
