this is a common misconception!
only the sparrow-lemming does this, and it is not at all as it seems, you see the sparrow lemming is the product of when a sparrow and a lemming mated, early in it's life it will attempt to fly, as a sparrow would but unfortunetly it does not have wings like a pure bred sparrow, and plunges haplessly to its own misunderstood destruction.
