Can't! I saw it yesterday outside a store, and I didn't have a container. I had a water bottle, but it wouldn't have fit through the neck.

Looking at a ruler, now I'm thinking it was about 2 1/2 - 3 inches long. Still pretty big. About 30-40mm.

Does anyone know what it is? It's in the Atlanta area.

Not sure about that. It looks like stag beetles have weird mandibles, and the OP one looks like it has curved horns on top of its head.

And patent leather beetles are too small for that one in the photo. AKA bess beetles, but they have just one horn on their heads:

Roaches are not beetles. Beetles are order coleoptera, and Roaches are in the superorder dictyoptera, with mantids and termites.
