What are you keeping in the tank? If you have anything living in there, you never "clean" the tank entirely, you change the water to keep the nitrate level down, which means algae won't have waste to nourish it. If you change the water completely, you'll mess up your biological filtration and hurt your pets, so the best thing to do is just start doing water changes, and wipe the algae off with something that hasn't been used with any type of soap or chemicals. You should do a water change every week, since you're trying to kill off algae, change about 50% of the water a week (not hard with a 2 gallon) and once things are under control, 10-20%/week.
