bird? Anonymous
Hello /an/ I saw these two birds that made a very strange sound while on vacation in Florida. I've never seen these before and was wondering if anyone knew what they were or what family they are apart of

Thanks!

Looks like a pair of whooping cranes.

nope, they are sandhill cranes. Just saw a bunch up in IN. They migrate through on there way south. Very similar to whooping cranes but still different

Sandhill cranes, and are the "endangered species" list last I knew. Usually have two youths at a time, and stick together as a family until the youths have reached adulthood, and sometimes thereafter. If the two youths are male and female, which often occurs, they often inbreed, and repeat the life cycle. Also, they lay some big-ass eggs. Can be arrested for intentionally coming within 30ft (I believe) of them, however when they have young I don't see why you would want to. Aggressive mother fuckers.

Those birds have some balls. Riding with my step dad in his truck and got stuck behind these little bastards. They will not move any faster even if a huge ass truck is right up against them beeping the horn.

Sandhill cranes!
Live in Florida and have seen a couple of families over these past six years
I do feed them and have never had a problem with their behaviour even when a babe was near

I've only seen aggressiveness when two different families come close to each other

Their call is very loud -- been woken up a couple of mornings by them
