So I wanted to start a garden with my mom this weekend and needed a few tips. what vegetables should we make? what herbs/spices (ie. cilantro) should we grow? and whats a good way to prepare the soil for growing produce. Thanks anon

its good to get rid of the stones in the soil,it can make yr veg grow badly.onions and carrots are a good start, and lettuce is also really easy.strawberries are great cos they have little "runners" that produce more plants.and if you are going to grow mint, may i suggest a pot.it covers things like mad

Has good advice. I had a garden a few years ago and the mint we had grew all over the fucking yard...that stuff is monstrous.

Another good starter plant is basil...smells nice, grows easily, but doesn't overrun the place.

I may also suggest radishes...they are quick to grow and homegrown ones taste delicious. You can grow them easily just from seeds.

If you buy some young tomato plants from a nursery, they are also pretty easy, I think. Just be prepared for a jungle in the summer, with tomatoes.

Lettuce is easy to grow, but be expected to get NOTHING from it because of all the slugs that love to feast on it.
Tomatoes are nice, but plant only a couple or they'll take over.
Dill is a great herb to grow and will come back each year since the seeds are spread everywhere.
