Due to forces beyond my control, I am now the keeper of two hatchling red eared slider turtles.

Any advice on how to take care of these animals? I have set up a 29 gallon aquarium for them to live in. I know I will have to buy a new habitat down the road when they grow, but what else should I know?

Appropriate lighting and diet are gonna be the big two. I've got a shitty connection right now or I'd dig up some links. I know there are a ton of turtle foods out there, though - frozen, pelleted, canned, freeze dried. A mix of stuff will be great for them. Anachris (pretty sure that's how you spell it) is an aquatic plant that you can let float in the water that turtles will eat. It's pretty hardy and might even grow in your tank. Small fish could be given as treats, rosy red minnows or little comet goldfish. They're really messy though, not just because of the fish waste but scales, skin, all the debris that comes with being bitten in half. I think you can offer things like high-quality canned dog food and cooked egg, in small amounts, for protein. LOTS OF STUFF ETC.

tank size: 50 gallon for the first year per turtle, 10 gallons per inch of shall after that ( better to house them separately red ears are territorial)
lighting: house bulb in a dome fixture for heat/ temp 87-90 and a UVB emitting flouresent ex: reptisun 5.0
Water heating: nonglass submersible heater rated for your tank size /temp 78-80
filtration: over filter those suckers! canister filter around 350 gph and up I use filstar xp3
food: 50% vegis and waterplants 25% pellets 25%live (goldfish are trash use rosyminnow and guppies)
skip the gravel in the tank it's dangerous and dirty, floating basking areas win because they take up less water space
otherwise redears are cool, interesting to look after, they do get kinda large

Sell them to a pet store. Being "forced" into having pets means either that 1. You're a pussy pushover or 2. You really actually wanted these pets or 3. Both of these, in which case kill yourself.
