hey /an/

i just got home from the pet store. i am thinking about investing in a bearded dragon. i would like a lizard or scorpion that is not too difficult to take care of.

does anyone know of any websites where i can regularly order crickets/bugs and other supplies?

thanks (pic related)

Pick up any reptile magazine and I'm sure there will be loads of shit with cricket suppliers or something in there. Go back to the pet store and just rifle through the reptile magazine and find one and rip that bitch out sharpish.

Also, unless you already have, please thoroughly research beardies to make sure you know obviously how to PROPERLY care for it but also whats in store for you down the road when it gets older etc.

Bearded dragons make awesome pets. Make sure to research the species before you get one, though. And any local pet store should have plenty of crickets. Make sure to feed your beardie other things, too, like veggies.

Don't keep your bearded dragon on any sort of "critter litter" or "sand". Keep him on paper only. We see so many at the vet clinic that I work for that come in with impactions of the bowels and such because of eating crickets and bugs and ingesting the sand along with it. Just a tip that will save you a lot of money and possibly dead lizard.

Seconding this like crazy, I hated seeing reptiles die to impaction. I worked at a pet store for a while and we kept reptile carpet in our tanks. Figure the only risk would come from letting it get frayed and messy to the point where your animal could maybe ingest some of it. Looks nice, even washable once or twice before it needs to be replaced, if I remember correctly. Pic related.

hey /an/

op here. thanks for the replies.

at the pet store they said a baby beardie would eat 2-3 crickets and salad each day. according to a care sheet on beardeddragon.org it says they eat between 20-60 each day.

which is more common?

I'm just curious, what kind of surfaces do they live on naturally? I would think that if they can't refrain from eating dirt in captivity that they would have problems with it in the wild too.

I wondered about that too, my husband and I were discussing that and I'm wondering if the ones they sell at pet stores are just not used to it? dont know.
