horses....what veggies/fruits do they like to eat?
>> Anonymous
Grass.

No, seriously, they evolved to live on grass. It's not long ago that I heard a vet complain how all the stuff people feed to horses these days causes cavities.

valid point there, petting zoos always have "DONT FEED OUR HORSIES THEY GET THE SHITS ):<"-signs put up

Yes but if your horse ISN'T in a petting zoo and thus having foods that should be reserved for occasional treats shoved at them by every person who walks in, there are plenty of tasty things you can give them. Apples and carrots are good, a few cut up in their feed is kinda like putting fruit on cereal for us. Generally there aren't many other fruits/veggies that they'll eat, but it's up to your horse. Other snacks can be clover, oats or a saltlick. A personal favourite is molasses dissolved in hot water, it makes a nice warm drink on cold days.

You shouldn't feed your horse anything that is mushy, or turns mushy while chewing. Anything that's tough and fibery is good.

Oh god, I was told that a horse liked mints once, but I only had a pack of Sharpe's Extra Strong. The horse went nuts, did that really mad curling back of it's lips and jumped around a lot.

so, you're an animal abuser? reported

Well, when horses do that weird lip curling, it is to expose their vomeronasal organ. A small organ responsible for detecting pheromones and such.

Found in many creatures, but not in great apes and whales.

Somehow some members of the mint family has scents which can confuse the vomeronasal organ leading to odd behaviour from the possessing animal.

This is how catnip works on cats, by the way.
