....
It's NOT a hunting dog. It's a guard dog bred to run alongside coaches for long distances. So, it has a extreme guarding instinct (which most stupid owners turn into aggression) and extremely loyal and have almost unlimited stamina. So they need tons and tons of exercise or they will turn neurotic.

I fucking hate this argument. Of course not every dog will follow the standard! It's a GUIDELINE, not a RULE.
If you get a dalmatian, you can reasonably assume it's going to be protective, need a TON of exercise, and will respond far better to postive training rather than dominance based training. It may, or may not, fit that way.
Ollie pretty much fits the standard, but both of my huskies in the past didn't. One wasn't very motivated to escape, and could be off-lead. The other didn't like pulling, which was okay.
But the guideline is there for a reason, and when you get a dog you expect it to follow the standard, and THEN adjust for the dog's personality afterwards.
The people with bad dalmatians are people who bought them for their looks, and tried to adjust the dog to THEIR imaginary standards. No shit that doesn't work. If they wanted a loyal, calm, and unenergetic dog... maybe they should have gotten the RIGHT breed.
