my dad bought a puppy for my mom on impulse.

it is very small and cute (chihuahua). but he bought it from a petstore, the worst place possible. he was originally going to see a good breeder like I told him, but he said when he saw this puppy he just couldn't say no.

it is purebred chihuahua, cream colored, my dad says they gave him info for the breeder (including name and phone#), and that the pups mother was only allowed to produce three litters. there is a 48 hour return policy, but my dad is already so attached (and our other chihuahua died a year ago). what do I do? call the breeder to ask questions? return it? just keep it?

goddamn it's cute. it is sitting in my lap right now.

From a pet store? Fuck, the dog is tainted! Kill it lest the gods punish you and your family!

Just keep it. The damage has been done; don't confuse the puppy even more. Socialize it REALLY WELL. Get it out a lot and make it see lots of things so it won't turn in to a nervous wreck that barks at everything when it grows up.

Asking the breeder questions is most likely useless. If the breeder sold their puppies to a petstore, that shows how much they care, and so you can't assume the breeder could tell you much of use. I don't see what you'd expect to get out of it.
