Pearls in Hollywood Anonymous
Some female celebs claim they are vegens because of moral reasons. so doesn't it make them hypicrits when they wear pearls as jewelry? because you're technically killing the oyster when harvesting the pearls.
>> Anonymous
Which celebs say that and have pictures of them wearing pearls?
>> Anonymous
the only pearls I see celebs wearing are pearl necklaces, and they aren't hurting any clams other than the celeb's to make em =3
>> Anonymous
Madonna, Gwen Paltrow, Pink, Pam Anderson, Anna Nichole. i've all seen them wear pearls at one time or another.
>> Anonymous
Of course that makes them hypocrites...either that or they're wearing imitation pearls.

It's nothing new though. Vegetarians often object to killing animals for food, but they seem to overlook pesticide spraying to bring them their beloved vegetables.

Pamela Anderson is a spokeswoman for PeTA. She has Hepatitis C. PeTA opposes important biomedical research on laboratory animals that can end up curing diseases like Hepatitis C.

Guess who's probably gonna be one of the first in line for the human cure for Hepatitis C? You got it, Pamela Anderson.

Because people don't spray pesticides to grow food to feed cattle for meat, right?

Don't even fucking TRY to start ripping on vegetarians from that angle. There are plenty of actually VIABLE options, but there is far less animal death and environmental damage from vegetarian food production.

vegetarians are the biggest pearl gulpers of them all!
>> farming Anonymous
don't forests and jungles have to be mowed down for argriculture farming crops?
>> Anonymous
I don't think that many celebs claim to be vegans and if you're vegan the most sacrifices have to be made in the food sector so its no problem to not wear pearls anymore, also vegans tend to inform themselves very well about everything that could contain animal-parts or the like. This whole thread is 13yr old idiots trying to make fun of vegans to feel better about murdering and raping the enviroment every day.

Oh, I fully understand that pesticides are used in the production of animal feed, and to keep pests off the cows (and other animals). I am OK with that. I eat meat and veggies and I have no complaints.

My point was simply that it is nigh-impossible to avoid killing creatures one way or another. The number of insects, rodents, and birds that die as a result of commerical farming is enormous--and there are even more effects "higher up" the food chain too. Thus, it is hypocritical to stop eating meat on the basis that "it kills" when eating typical farmed produce kills as well.

Note, I didn't say that vegetareanism/veganism was bad, I simply said that this was hypocritical. Don't read in anymore into my comment. I'm not judging, I'm just pointing out a fact.

Now then, if you want to manage your own garden and you don't use pesticides, and you use organic fertilizers, etc, then that is a different story and there is no hypocracy...but that is an extraordinarily rare situation.

i don't think PETA will ever get the Japanese to give up their sushi. the sea-food industry in asia is a stable diet next to rice.

No. We can 'treat' it and in some cases when it is caught early it can be put down so far it isn't a real problem. Still no absolute cure yet.

Issue:

Since killing animals is essentially unavoidable in mass-scale food production, how is it hypocritical to choose the method which results in LESS killing of animals under the pretenses of avoiding the killing of animals?

There's nothing hypocritical about that...so long as you admit it's a "less killing" method and not a "no killing" method. You're the first person I have ever "talked to" who has gotten that critical fact right!

Actually, a balance of meat and vegetables produces the least harm.

Exactly. I have nothing against those who admit their way is not bloodless, but those that think it is in the face of all evidence. See http://web.archive.org/web/20041107084521/http://eesc.orst.edu/agcomwebfile/news/food/vegan.html

Quite a lot. Soybeans are mainly grown on former jungles, the soil is quickly sucked dry because of monoculture and the farm moves every so often, burning down another patch of jungle.

Because the soil isn't kept still by tree roots, and the areas being rainy; The soil quickly erodes leaving the area useless.

So when you're pouring soy sauce on your rice, you can rest assured that you help kill off the areas on earth with the highest biodiversity.

Tribes usually don't farm andimals like industrial people do. They just kill what they need and eat it. While the industrial age just farms thousands and slaughter them all...

It's rumored that he created (from peanuts) a weapon so powerful that it remains classified to this very day.

I think what the anonymous who you are replying to means is that they do have to make room for the crops, but how the treat the land they use makes it useless in no time even though there are ways to prevent it.

Yeah they are fucking stupid. I saw a vegan shampoo ad where the girl was wearing pearls.
