Wuzzup /an/. So my lady cat likes to stick her hand in liquids to make sure they're there or to see how deep they are. I think that's what she's doing at least. Anyway, I was thinking of putting a drop of blue food dye in her water so she doesn't have to stick her dirty cathands in it and then shake it all over the place. Do you think this will work? And I'm guessing food dye is safe for cats. Thanks. Pic related, it's her stupid butt.

FUCKING CUTE CAT

You could try it. Food grade dye wouldn't be harmful for her to ingest, but cats don't really like changes to their food/water, so she may or may not drink it.

I had a female that used to do that, and I have a male who'll sit with the tip of his tail in the water dish (and then not drink it because there's hair in the water)

It's a cat thing, or ours are just retarded.

Get a heavier toilet lid so she won't pry it open to check, and as for water bowl, I'm afraid you'll have to live with it. Perhaps place a mat around the area?

your stupid cat is ADORABLE! my stupid cat dose this to (not in the toilet though) i think its just a stupid cat thing!!!!

my dog does this too, he sticks his paws in his waterbowl and flings it all around and keeps doing it until i yell at him to stop.

I know, I think i'ts cute too, but not when I go to sit on the toilet and there's water all over it. Then you think, eww someone pissed all over the seat, but it's just my stupid cat. My gentleman cat doesn't do this, but watching her do it, I'm worried he might start it. Monkey see, monkey do, etc.

I figured I'd put like, a drop of food coloring so it's hardly tinted, but just enough to see the water

Phil?!?!?!!

I doubt food coloring would make it more visible. Your cat would probably prefer moving water, like a small fountain. They make cat bowls that circulate water, or you might be able to use a desk fountain.

Yeah, she does splash the water around a bit. I'm still going to try the blue dye thing first, who knows, might work. I love my cat but why is she so retarded.

I fail to see how this would work, cat's can't even see colors and the water being colored is unlikely to make a difference for her depht-perception.

Really? I thought that was a myth. Even if she can't see color she can still see that the water is darker than the white bowl it's in, right?

Okay so she drank out of the blue water, but she still wanted to stick her hand in it. I guess I'll try the fountain-water-bowl thing. I have a feeling she's going to do it her whole cat life, though. Oh well.

just put some fish tank marbles(big enough she wont swallow them) in her water bowl, arrange them so some of the marbles break the waters surface. this will give her something to judge against the water depth.

That's an idea. Never heard of that, I'll try it

my cat banzuke (the white one) is obsessed with moving the food dish around and splashing water everywhere. also he moves food into the water bowl and then eats it with his paws. i think its just a stupid cat thing.

Cats CAN see colors, just not as vividly as we can. They sort of see pastels. There's still some debates about red (I think it was red), but most vets agree.

Some cats just enjoy tooling around with water. Both of my younger cats are huge fans of dipping their paws into any liquid. Running water is just that much more awesome. I really don't think it's got ANYTHING to do with her not being able to see it.

Mine does the same thing. He just pulls the water dish around the kitchen, and it splashes everywhere. D: I think he likes to watch the water move around. I even bought the special no-slide rubber bottomed dishes. No go. My cat is like Hercules.

He also only drinks hot water. Which is kind of obnoxious.

Is his first name Unbeatable?

she also likes to stick her arms in my bath and then fall in like a dummy. Picture related

no-slide, huh? That'd be a good idea. I'd get those sticky placemats; they're not really sticky, they're kind of foamy and look like checkerboard

OMG my cats effin do this. it's cute as hell when my 9yo does it. just digs his paw in my cup/water bowl and licks it off then repeat. patty cake (3yo) only does it w/ wine, her dumb-ass son, tanto 2yo, tries to mimic his uncle, but more of just sticks his arm in my cup and tips it over..... ffffffffff

Actually they can see colours.

OP, your cat probably does this because she likes moving water, not because she can't see it. My cats like to drink from the sink with the water on low because they like to play with the flowing water. Have you ever thought about using one of those electric water dishes that flow like a fountain? Maybe she'd play with that instead of your toilet. I have one of those for my cats and they use it more than the sink now.

i have a bengle and it fucking loves water... jumps in the bath etc sink...
