>>326242 1. Get another rat. Rats of both sexes do best living in groups of 2 or more. Contact with you is NOT enough to replace social interactions with other rats, period. This is important for the mental health of your rat. It's cruel to keep them alone and not much more work to care for two. 2. Once he's familiar with his home, give him lots of attention. Rats love attention. 3. Lab blocks, not seed mixes. 4. Google for a list of foods that should not be given to rats. It's a short list. Anything else is fair game for treats. 5. Bigger cage the better, and let them run around your room under supervision. The rest is pretty much just the standard rodent care stuff that you'll know from keeping mice. Cleaning the cage regularly, etc.
