i have three... and yes sometimes they do seem to be a chore, but they are happier w/ at least one other ferret, but get one to start w/ and bond w/ it well. they are expensive to maintain but if you have the time and money they are well worth the work and money my three are like my children and i love them dearly. just make sure you have a good, ferret experianced vet BEFORE yo get a ferret, becouse anything and EVERYTHING will happen to them, also consider adopting an adult to begin w/, babys are a REDICULOUSE amount of work!!
check out this sight and check out there forum www.maferrets.org they are REALLY knowledgeable and will help you with EVERYTHING! good luck and think long and hard and prepare yourself WELL!
