Puppy experience Anonymous
Hi, would /an/ like to share some of their experiences of training puppies? Fun? A nightmare?

I just had a puppy and she is a lovely little thing, but a total nightmare when it comes to training or obedience. I know that she's just a baby and propably all this will be much easier with time.

She's very intelligent and propably could be trained to play chess for all I know, but because of this she need loads of motivation and she's very good at questioning whether she has to obey me or not. She's also hyper energetic.

Oh, and she's a smooth collie. The pic is not focused since she was tugging the string attached to the camera when I took the pic.

Don't get frustrated, keep trying while she is still a puppy. Of course its possible to train them when they're full grown but its much, much, MUCH better to train her now. I think its the first 6 months which are critical as far as training goes, when their little doggie brain gets programmed.
Good luck!

I try not to get frustrated. I'm not a patient person by nature, but I have no choice now, do I, heh. Only thing I could acheve by loosing my temper would be an unhappy dog/untrained dog and a bad relationship between her and me.
I guess I just didn't understand it would be THIS hard (even though I thought I was well prepared). Oh well, its my responsibility now, and I try to do my best.

Thanks for your advice.

Does /an/ have any good puppy training stories to share?

Training a puppy is like training a child: praise them when they are good and punish them when they are bad. Don't let her get away with bad behavior or she will become spoiled and a total nightmare.

That sounds quite bad...even though I know exactly what you mean. Mostly I love her soooo much, but on the other hand she can be really, really annoying.
