Not sure if there are any big dogs that don't shed, but here's a list of light-shedding breeds.

Good with kids?

"Good with kids" is a really stupid question. This depends completely on the individual dog, and not the breed. Train it to be calm around children, and it will be, regardless of its breed. The only ones I know to be prone to disliking children regardless of what you do are smaller breeds.

Still, a large breed puppy with children is seriously asking for problems. 60 pound puppy bounding around and being hyper and out of control like puppies are, around kids? Bad idea. Get an adult dog or something medium sized.

Get one of those standard poodle mixes that costs retards a few thousand dollars. Like a doodleman pincer (pictured). They're large and usually do not shed at all.

There are medium to big dogs you can find that are excellent with children. I grew up with a Beagle and then a McNab. I was a toddler with the beagle and remember pulling on her ears and tail or use her as a pillow and she would just sit there and take it. But the beagle had bladder stones or something like that (I don't really remember) and we had to put her down after some time.

Then we got our McNab, which is basically like a shepherd/sheepdog/collie breed. She's medium, and has always been wayyyy protective of me and my siblings even as a puppy. She was/is a very good mothering dog.

The only problem I remember is that both our Beagle and our McNab were escape artists. Our McNab is about 12 now, and she doesn't leave my side when I take her out to the park or whatever, but as a puppy I couldn't let her leave the leash.

I highly suggest collies/etc because they are great with kids. Breeds are an important factor, but really it does also depend on the dog itself and how much training/attention you give it.
