Hey /an/,

Last night after my mother got home from work, she mentioned that there was a cat in our driveway that she'd never seen before who was pretty friendly. I like cats, so I figured I'd go outside and see if it was still there. After calling, "Kitty, kitty" it leaped from the bushes and said hey. We hung out for a while and I watched him attack bugs. My sister came out a bit later and started playing with leaves with it.

It's obviously a young cat (kinda small with big paws) because it's a doofus and not very graceful at all, not to mention that it's very naive. All the play made it tired, so I picked it up and sat in a chair on the porch with him and it fell asleep soon after.

My mom agreed to let it stay in the garage since it was so fucking cold outside and I didn't want little kitty to be on their own. We set up some food and water, a litter box, and a box with a comfy blanket in it.. so now he is chillaxing in the garage.

This morning I got up to go around the neighborhood and ask if anyone was missing a cat (as it certainly doesn't seem feral because they're so friendly). Pretty much no one was home and other people said no they weren't missing a cat. A woman says she saw a stray that sounds similar to the cat we have, but she's not quite sure.

tl;dr - I found a cat and it's in my garage.

So /an/, think I should cover a broader area and ask around later when more people are home? I usually just ask, "Are you missing a cat?" and if they are, ask them to describe it. Since anyone could go, "Orange and long hair!? It must be fluffy!" and take the cat. Which is another reason I'm not too keen on fliers.

Picture is of the kitty. Can't tell if it's a boy or a girl with all that fluff.

Be sure to call the shelters and animal control in your area to see if anybody's reported a lost cat.

Does it have a chip or a tattoo? If not, enjoy your secondhand kitty.

Well, if we don't find it's owner soon enough, we'll definitely be taking it to the vet to get them checked out.

Put a flyer up at local pet stores, and keep an eye out for any "lost cat" flyers on the phone polls in your area.

Otherwise I'd say you found yourself a new buddy :3 .

aww.... s/he looks just like my cat... except for more "serious" looking.

I'd say put up missing cat flyers w/ photo... if mean, if it IS someone's cat, they probably have a picture of it in their home to confirm it with you.

that cat is adorable, and looks like a "Squiggles".

It looks like a 'Henry'.

name him BARF

Name him Serious Business

Pretty red cat, but I'm sure he has an owner. He looks too healthy and well groomed for a stray.

General Ambrose Burnside should be the name of that cat.

It might just be a general longhaired moggie, but might also have some Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest cat or Siberian in him. Hard to say.

OP here!

Thanks for the name suggestions, guys! It's been pretty hard deciding a name for the lil guy.

We decided though, that the name will have no color references and no dorky puns.. but that's about the only limitations.

>>185654
Not sure about his breed. He's just like a long-haired orange tabby with some white accents here and there.

Could be a Maine Coon kitten...the M suggests so but it probably isn't. The whole naiive and clumsy thing sounds like Maine Coons tho...but all kittens are like that...

Name him NEUTER YOUR PET YOU MONSTER

Do be careful not to steal someone's cat, naming it won't make it right. Post fliers with a black and white photo of the cat, don't mention its sex or color or eye color (if something other than black/brown) and if you don't get a response in a month, its yours. I had a cat when I was 10 that was abducted by an old woman a few blocks away, I saw her putting my cat into her car in a crate two years later and confronted her about it, she was really hostile, so I called the local humane society, luckily we had her chipped. When I brought her home she remembered exactly where everything was, heading straight for her food dish in the basement, she was slightly underweight. It turned out the old hag had 20 cats living in her shit covered house. Not that you're an old hag or whatever, but that might be some 10 year old's cat.

Or Fuchs... Or Roka...

Rofl, indeed. We discussed how we were probably making some 10 year-old girl sad missing her kitty. While naming him does create some attachment, we need something to refer to him by other than "cat".

We'll be calling around and looking at the paper for any lost animals and probably be putting up fliers or something soon enough.

It's just odd since we've never seen him before unlike all the other neighborhood cats.. how far could a kitten wander off ya think?
>> Wesker !JYbrm0g7fs
Definitely not a Maine Coon. They are a LOT fluffier, and at that age, they look like fluffballs.

He's probably an American medium hair. The M on the head is characteristic of tabbies, also, by the by.

Just keep in mind, American short/medium/long hair is just a fancy way of saying that you have a mutt.

he has a beautiful coat. i'd call him Virgil.
