uhhh....cannibas is a little too care intensive for me. 18 hours of light, 6 hours of darkness, grow rooms, illegal, etc.

Go for cacti, they're easy to care for and ocassionally bloom during the summer. They can survive a winter indoors as long as they are in a place with a good amount of light. Try to plan them in a larger than normal pot so you wont find yourself bleeding to death when you try to repot it in something larger.

Well, it depends on what windows\plant lights you have. I personally like growing herbs, especially mint although it's really quite tempermental... Thyme, Sage, and Oregano grow quite well where I am...not direct light but a big window. If you have a plant light, african violets grow beautifully.
Cactus can also work, although I've never had ANY luck with those. I don't change a thing but of the same kind of cactus sitting next to one another, one will rot from too much water, the other will shrivel up from too little.
Oh, bromiliads might work too. You don't even need to water a lot of those.

I've had the same cacti I used in a seventh grade science fair project. It was a shitty project, but I'm in college now and they're still kicking!

They must be super cacti.

I have a prayer plant in mine - just a little one. They're neat because they have pretty leafs with little psuedo track marks, and at night the leaves fold up (hence, prayer plant). They need a little water every other day, so i keep a water bottle next to mind to make it easy.

Pothos.

They're cheap, trivial to care for, impossible to kill. Probably the most foolproof pant out there.

They let you know when they need watered, so no need to worry about it. Just ignore it until the leaves get limp and droopy, then water it and it will be fine in the morning.

They grow like crazy, too - I have one that I bought in a dixie-cup sized pot a few years ago, it is now conquering my stairwell!

I've got an Aloe Vera here. Looks pretty nice, the barbs aren't very sharp, enjoys shade, and the contents of the leaves are useful for the beard rash. Good for someone who'd overwater cactuses, or doesn't have a sunny windowsill for proper plants.

My brother has a plant that creeps up and down one of his bookshelves. It's a pain in the ass, but also looks really nice.

Marijuana grows really well indoors, i high pressure sodium light is useful but flouros will work given the proper number and wavelength output
