So I don't usually come here, but...
I was having a quiet night in, when suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I notice a small shape run by. Noticing that shape was that of a spider, I decided I should get up and get the bug spray. However, the fucker ran fast, and by the time I'd gotten the spray, it had completed its exploratory mission and retreated to whatever dark corner it had been hiding in.
Now, usually I wouldn't be scared, but whilst it was retreating, the spider jumped. These weren't pissy little jumps, they were quite impressive, considering the thing waso nly about 10cm long (although it did, in its hurry, jump straight into a cupboard twice, which made quite a loud noise, despite the spider's size).
It's now hiding in some corner or my room, which is strewn with clothes, bedsheets, and lots of corners stacked with boxes, cupboards and lots of nooks and crannies it could easily hide in. I would go in and look, but I ended up spraying so much bug spray I couldn't breathe and have since decided to evacuate the room.

What I'm wondering is, what the hell kind of spider was that? I didn't think spiders that big jumped. As previously stated, it was about 10cm, brown or black (I didn't get a good look at it, I'm shortsighted and didn't have my glasses) and it was very quick. Also, I don't know if I've mentioned it, but it could jump.

Oh right, picture unrelated. I've gassed myself out of the room my computer's in, so I'm on a secondary one, and this was the only picture I could find.

Spider, 10cm long, can jump, in an unspecified location somewhere on Earth. That narrows it down.

OH FUCK OFF. Don't those things live in Africa? Besides, I never heard it flutter or anything. And I'm pretty sure it was hairy.

Can huntsmen jump? I see them alot, but they're usually just dead or shed skins. The alive ones I do see always run for cover while I run them down with bug spray. I've never seen one jump before. It may have been a huntsman, but it looked way too stubby (legwise) and hairy to be one.

Meet the American Cockroach. Standard size is about 4cm per individual, and they FLY. They also live in Sydney.

Oh christ. Cockroaches are disgusting enough already without them being able to fly. Who the fuck lets them do that? I thought they only had wings as a joke or something. Fuck.

Apparently 'Straya has their own breed of them too. They're also BIG, and they also FLY.

Good lord. That's it, even though I've never seen one of these insane flying cockroaches, I'm getting myself a house in the Swedish countryside where they don't have anything like that.
