My 6 months old kitten (pic unrelated, as I don't have photos of her on file) seems to be addicted to my smell. My worn clothes are her favorite kneading targets and sometimes she will just lay down on her back, tongue sticking out and her nose buried in the fabric.

Today however, she did something really strange. After smelling my shirt she would nibble on it, tug that spot a little, shake it around carefully, then grab a new spot and do the same. It didn't look like she was trying to ruin it, even though she ended up doing so. I've never seen a cat do something like this. What could be the reason behind her behavior?

sounds like she's trying to suckle, given she also kneads it. Usually symptomatic of kittens who have been taken away from their mother far too early. Nothing to worry about at all, i'd just hang up your good shirts.

My cats did this for a while. She associates you with her mother because of the smell. Get a t shirt you don't particularly want, wear it for a day, put some kitty milk in it and give it to her for suckling on. You can also use a teatowel but it wouldn't have your smell.. unless you like wearing teatowels.

That did look like it. And yes, she was separated from her mother really early, at less than 3 months of age. My only concern was that she enters this euphoric state when she does all this.

She's on dry foods already, though I suppose I can spare a t-shirt or two for her to play with.

Cats also seem to go crazy for the smell of body odour. After a hard day my cat loves sticking her nose into my armpits and having a good sniff.

Siamese cats also like to suckle wool. hitler cat LOVES to suck on this one blanket i used as padding in his box as a kitten. I"ve had him since he moment her was born (minus about 3 months after 12wk old) some cats are just strange, but make sure she doesn't suck/chew your shirt to the point of breaking stuff off, she can inhale it and suffocate.
......it won't let me upload a pic......

My cat does that, but not only clothes but anything of mine. Books, bags, even my pencil-case. She also reacts to hormones as well.
When my boyfriend went away for 10 months she would not set foot in my room (abstinence?) but when he came back she was quite happy to go in there.

It's good to know my cat isn't as weird as I originally thought.

My cat does this too, it's normal. I don't know how early she was taken away from her mother since I was just a kid at the time, but she loves to suckle on my blankets and t-shirts while kneading them. Sometimes when she's in a really good mood she'll even suckle on the shirt I'm wearing.
