Yeah, most cats I know hold serious grudges. But so do dogs. Not a grudge thing exactly, since my dog's friendly as hell, but it's still relevant: My neighbour has 3 little kids who are shit scared of dogs. My dog's really big and hyper, and will always run up to people and greet them, and when the kids saw her they completely freaked and yelled at her to go away and all that. Big as she is, she's a complete wimp and will run away anytime someone yells or gets into a fight, so she bolted. Now every time they come over (which isn't too often, but she still remembers them) she'll always make sure to keep her distance and acts all sulky - you'd think they beat her up or something. And she's not just scared of kids or anything. She LOVES kids, and still greets other kids like normal. Just these ones she recognizes as the ones who yelled at her for saying hello and now she wont go near them.
