Sup /an/

What would be some good peaceable fish to put in a tropical planted 30 gallon fish tank? I'm planning on having 8-12 Neon Tetras and.. well i don't know.
Blue or Bolivan Rams? Rainbow fish? Dwarf gouramis? WHAT SHOULD I DO /AN/?!

I need something exciting, yet peaceful enough to not eat all the tetras and maul all of the plants... Suggestions?

I had a pleco for a couple years that never got over like 5 inches.

I think they sell ones now that don't get big.

Don't get a pleco

All they do is shit long turds and grow

Bushynose plecos work for 30 gallon tanks.
I have three in mine.

I'll look into Bushynoses.
So far it's looking like it'll be the siamese algae eater for me. Local shop seems to have plenty, and i'm reading nothing but good things about them.

...but enough talk on cleanin' feesh. What about EXCITING FEESH?

good call with the neons, theyre schooling fish and are happier in a school. you can mix various kind of little tetras with them, glo light tetras for instances, theres a couple others that escape me at the moment as well. guppies go great with them too, but you need to get as many females as you do males,or more, or the males will fight with each other. the females arent as pretty. cherry barbs are very pretty little fish that can share a tank with neon tetras as well. theyre schooling fish too.. if you like freaky little fish, theres these ones called glass catfish, those are awesome to have, but theyre schooling fish as well. you could also get some ghost shrimp, or dwarf frogs to keep the floor of the tank cleaned up too. all the fish i mentioned will leave peacefully with each other, no problems, but the male guppies do fight if theres not enough females.

I like the looks of cherry barbs. I've been thinking about either those or zebra danios to mix with the neons.
I'd like to have some bigger, non-schooling fish with them though, like rams or something. Not sure if that's do-able, but i think it'd look really nice.

Also, glass catfish = winning material. I wish they were easier to care for, because they look fucking awesome.

Fancy guppies are badass. I have like 20 of them in my fishtank.

I need bigger tropical fish in my own tank, which is 55 gal. I just have a bunch of little mollies and guppies in it which are nice and stuff but this tank is meant for bigger, awesomer fish.

>>268353here. I wouldn't worry about the difficulty of keeping glass catfish,i originally had 10, after the first month i was down to 7, and the remainder all lived well over a year, in a tank with neons and guppies and cherry barbs. I dont know what you were reading but i didnt have much trouble with them. also, if you want to keep your fish happy and healthy, give them a variety of foods, not just flake. i had freeze dried daphnia, brine shrimp, baby shrimp and tubifex worms. the baby shrimp come as whole shrimp, but theyre easily crushed in your fingers. and the tubifex worms come in little blocks that are difficult to break up, but you can just toss one in the tank and let them pick at it for something to do. you dont want to use tubifex worms as a main course unless you crush it up for them though. regardless of what you get, if you want to keep them happy and healthy, give the little guys some variety in their diet. but if you really like the look of glass catfish, then go for it! neons were harder for me to keep alive than they were.

and dont forget to cycle your tank!

Look into Rainbow fish.
Big, tropical, and community friendly. They'd let you get the most out of those 55 gallons. I know if i had that much space to work with, i'd be getting some. Hot damn.

gold barbs ftw

if you want some bottom dwellers, you can go for corydoras. they're peaceful and funny looking, but i believe they need a sand substrate

I'll have to look into those barbs. They seem pretty sweet. I wonder if all barbs are as peaceable as those...

Funny looking is a plus. I'll be doing moar research on these.

If you can get one, get a humbug talking catfish! I have one and it's the most awesome thing in our tank - about 6 inches long, dark grey with creamy coloured spines down its sides! Also if you take it out of water (like, into another tank while you clean yours?) it makes fucking funny noises.

Also, why has no-one mentioned angelfish? Get a pair of them because they look so lonely on their own.

Also, get JUST ONE Siamese fighting fish male. On it's own it's a beautiful addition to the tank, more than one and the water will run red.

I would be causious about barbs. Most of them (exluding cherries, gelios, and other small species) are very active and might bother neons. Also, barbs are prone to overeating a lot, so you might have trouble delivering any food to your slow-moving shy neons.
Danios could work, as well as rainbows. 30 g is not much, but you can keep dwarf rainbows, or better yet threadfin rainbows - pic related.
Or you can get gouramis or, possibly, a paradise fish.
Regarding plecos - common pleco does grow to be gigantic shitter, but many others do not go beyound 4 inches. Research the specie before you buy it.
Also you might want to consider kribensis or rams.

I'll look out for some rainbows i could fit in. I haddn't even considered paradise fish. I'll look into that. Thanks!

Considering Rams and Kribs like you wouldn't believe. REALLY want some Kribs, but i have a feeling that they'll be hard to track down. Local fish store has some German Blue Rams, but i heard that they are really fragile... Also rather small.

Arn't Kribensis are rather aggressive though?... which worries me a little, but they're so god damn pretty and interesting.

I think, Kribs are only agressive to each other, so just keep 1 or a pair (male and female) in 30 gallons.
Rams apreciate clean stable water. If you know what are you doing they should not be much of a problemm.

Most Corries anre not strictly bottom dweller, they swim bottom-middle, with ocasional darting to the surface for a gulp of air (some of them have this habbit)
OP, you also might consider small loaches, they are very active in groups. Just dont get Clown Loaches (x-box huge) or something as agressive as skunk loaches or blue botia - I would not put those pirates in the same tank with neons. Something small and peacefull, like kuhli loach or dwarf loach.

Kribensis are a wonderful fish to keep and if you are lucky to get a pair ,really amazing at rearing their young.a truly beautiful fish to keep

I think my 'want' of Kribs has now progressed into a 'need'.

Is there anyway i could perhaps order them? I'd rather not order live animals via mail... too risky... but i could i order them from a fish specialty store? I have two that i could try. Does anyone have experience with this?
