Dear /an/
I've always had a thing for having a pet tiger or some sort of epic cat. Anyone know anyone that has pet big epic animals? Or read anything interesting about it?
I'm assuming you'd need special council/government permission to have one, and they'd cost a fuckload to keep and buy. But my real question is....how easy are they to train? Is it possible to have a pet tiger that's so domesticated it's basically like a dog that never bites?

Me too, make sure to let it sleep in your bed. It would be the most comfortable there.

Tigers and bears are not pets.

Either OP is completely retarded or a troll. It's so hard to tell, nowadays.

Get a pet snake instead. Snakes are actually great cuddlers contrary to popular opinion. I suggest a black mamba. I hear they're the only breed of snake that will kiss you if you startle them. Isn't that CUUUUUUTE!!!???? :D :3 XD :P

www.qadesh.com

That dude had a tiger for 16 years. Check out his site, it's interesting, with lots of pics. It is obviously a commitment, and not something you should be researching via 4chan.

People like him and OP make me rage.

OP, you can't "domesticate" wild animals, especially large predators. dogs have been bred for thousands of years to be the way they are. You can't just go and get a cat, bear, monkey, ect. and expect them to be like a dog or cat.

Reverse engineer a ostrich into a tyranno (not rex, but one of the smaller sub-species), or a eagle into a raptor (proto-bird species [true eagles, falcons, and hawks are still raptors])

Actually I'm sure this is true, just unsure about which nigger it was.

Someone explain to me how animals can be inherently "wild" or "domesticated". It's whatever the environment they're brought up in I would imagine.

Animals have strong instincts, and these influence their behaviour as much as upbringing. Regardless of how the nature/nurture debate plays out with respect to humans, nature has a strong sway with animals. Domesticated species have lost instincts that serve them in the wild but make them unsuitable as pets.

Non-domesticated animals, aka animals that have always lived in the wild for thousands and bajillions of years, generation after generation, are bred naturally to be the best survivors possible, which means, for predators, to instinctively need to hunt (skillz are usually taught by parents, but the need is still there). For large predators, like tigers, we are naturally prey. For grazers, like deer and whatnot, they're instinctively cautious and run away at any slight noise.

Domesticated animals are ones that have been bred by humans to be useful and to have certain traits. Dogs are a great example. You have a breed for almost any chore imaginable from duck-fetching to rat-hunting to spit-turning. Even lapdogs were bred to be that way.

Though nurture can tame a wild animal to a certain extent, you can never be 100% sure that they won't eventually come after you or play too rough. There are so many stories of people owning lions or tigers and the big cat is just playing when it rips your arm off because it sees you as family and doesn't realize how fragile you are.

Wild animals, even if raised from birth as pets, will still have their wild instincts.

Domesticated animals have had most of these instincts bred out of them and most good pet qualities (non-aggression etc) bred into them. These good traits might not exist naturally in the wild (or at least in large enough amounts as to be noticeable) since things like 'friendliness' might get you killed.

Likewise domesticated animals, if raised in the wild, go feral, revert to their original instincts for survival. Hence why it's dangerous to go near feral dogs and cats (cats tend to be chill though, dogs are more territorial).

So basically environment helps a lot, but it's not a definite, especially if the animal's line of ancestry hasn't been in that same environment for thousands of years.

Domesticated animals were *selected* by humanity for thousands of years. They picked the most docile individuals from a species and breed them, so that the next generations would keep this trait.
>> Anonymous
Hmm, the thing is that there is a difference between "taming" and "domestication." We've domesticated animals for thousands of years, and in doing so have selectively bred them to be more conducive to living with us, either through picking and choosing instincts or size or some other physical characteristic.

Now, obviously this has not been done with, say, tigers. But, that does not mean that it is impossible to for human to bond with a non-domesticated animal, look at the guy in 279599's link. Or, check out www.exoticcatz.com. Also consider the attacks from domestic animals that you hear about every so often.

I'm not advocating that everyone go out and get tigers or whatever, I'm just saying that it's not simply as cut and dry as "they're wild." OP, I think you're probably just a troll, but if you're seriously considering this, consider all the stray domestic dogs/cats out there now. Yes, there are tigers and other exotic animals in similar situations, but unless you plan on dedicating a chunk of your life to learning about, supporting, and properly raising and loving a six-hundred pound cat (or other exotic animal) consider going for something more within your reach.

Come on people, you can't domesticate a cat. The only reason we keep small cats is because when they slash you for not submitting you get a little scar as opposed to having your head torn off.

The story I am about to relay to you is completely true.

When I was 41 and going through a mid-life crises I purchased a big cat from a South American immigrant and named him Kimba. It took a year and a half to train him. It went fine, I had no problems. But once I let him out of his cage I began to notice he was behaving strangely. He would sniff my ass like a dog and I woke up a number of times to Kimba licking my crotch area. I pushed him away when these things happened, but it only made him more aggressive.

After a month I had had it, I was going to give him back. Kimba wouldn't stop acting like an asshole. But when I went towards the phone to call the South American, I saw a strange look in Kimba's eye, You know how they say that cats are very intelligent? Well it's true. Kimba knew what I was trying to do, and he didn't want to leave.

I bolted for the door but I wasn't fast enough. Kimba ravaged my clothes and stuck his huge cat dick in my ass. He swished his cat cock around my colon and licked the inside of my ears. This went on for about two and a half weeks. For two and a half weeks I was sodomized by a 800lbs leopard in my house, which was too far away for anyone to hear me.

Fortunately I had ordered a shitload of meat a couple of weeks earlier. A mail man came to my door and heard what he thoguht was a rape. I went to jail for half a year for bringing an illegal animal into the country, but being raped by large, bald black men was far less painful than being raped by a big cat. I hope you know what you're in for.

this is funny because leopards don't live in south america and as far as i know they don't get over 200 lbs.

Get a toyger and leave big cats in their protected areas, where they belong.
