So /an/, I found a cat and it's been living in my house for nearly a week. I'm not sure of its gender, but I think it's a boy? Anyway. Sometimes when I pet him, he'll stand up against my chest and put his arm around my neck and then lick my neck.

Is this normal?

it's fucking adorable. what, are you complaining? who cares?

Take him to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Your cat might have a chance of living if you get there before it's too late.

My cat does this. Has ever since he was a kitten. Sometimes, he'll put arms around my neck, then start licking my cheek.
It isn't necessarily normal, but it's one of the ways cats show love. And one of the sweetest.

I'm not complaining, I'm just not sure if it's normal.

I'm allergic to him anyway, and the saliva makes me break out in hives. D:

The last day I was working at the Denver dumb friends league I was cleaning and feeding one cat, a black domestic short-hair named Syria. She had been mistreated by a past owner and was ill-tempered with some of the more careless staff, but she always was amiable when I was taking care of her. I guess it was just the extra time I was willing to spend with her that made the difference.

She was scheduled to be put to sleep because of a rather minor bite incident, and the other kennels were filling up with the spring kitten boom that always seems to happen in rural areas. On that last day when I was taking care of her it almost seemed she knew what was coming. She was much more amorous than normal, and came out of her little kennel almost as soon as I had opened the door.

She just clung to the front of my shirt, purring and mewling sorrowfully, trying to get as close to me as possible. I know it was probably just coincidence, but I could almost sense her last goodbye to one of the few people that had been kind to her. After a long session of petting and sitting quietly together she finally got up and did something that still warms my heart to this day. She put one paw on each side of my neck and gave me a single caress and lick on my cheek, then walked back into her cage and laid down.

That night was one of the roughest in my life, I still think about her every now and then.

;_____;

See, this is why I'd like to keep this cat and not take it to the shelter.

WHY DIDN'T YOU TAKE IT HOME, GODDAMN!

Apartment doesn't allow pets, had no room or money to properly care for a cat, was almost never home between school, work and volunteering.

God i cried a bit...

Had a similar experience with a cat. Just started living with us in her last days. (We didn't know she had terminal cancer at the time) Would just sleep in the garage. We'd chase her out, but she'd always come back.
In a month, she was in our house living like a queen.

I'm glad she got out of that bad situation in life before she died...
