dear /an/,

The last time I saw my kitten was Saturday afternoon. She probably slipped out one of the windows of my house that doesn't have a screen. I've been leaving food out for her, thinking that she'll eventually return to the food, but no one has even caught a glimpse of her since she vanished. Also, the shitty neighborhood cats come and eat all the food while I'm not watching.

She's always been a shy cat, I figure she's just been hiding all the time and will eventually return out of hunger. Also its been very cold the past few nights.

She has a microchip in her, but she needs to make it to a shelter for that to be relevant.

tl;dr, my cat ran away. what would /an/ recommend?

pic related as its her

call her throughout the day, bring a bag of food or treats out with you and shake the shit out of the bag so she hears the food too

Call local vets and give them a description, her vaccination status, and her microchip number.

Call local shelters and cat rescues and give them a description, her vaccination status, and her microchip number.

Place her favourite bedding (such as one of your shirts or some dirty laundry or a cat bed if you have one) outside near the food, and possibly a favourite toy.

Post flyers with her description, when and where she was last seen, as well as a phone number for someone to call should they see or find her.

After this long, an indoor cat is most likely dead or has been "adopted" by someone. Are you positive it is neighborhood cats eating the food, and that it is not possible she is hiding out somewhere and eating it?

If you have not been contacted or found her by Saturday, call your local pound/animal control center and ask to rent/use a live animal trap. You may catch ferals, in which case you should turn them in to animal control, but you might also catch your kitten.

Drink a gallon of fresh horse piss and she will surely return.

You should examine all the owl pellets in the vicinity for traces of her bones.
