Whenever a cats vs dog thread is started, it's Robot House. Whenever the name my cat threads cover the front page, Robot House. Every time an animal corpse is desecrated—

Hamster. As dumb as they are, they're not even remotely as stupid or hateful as mice. All mice want to do is bite you and run away and shit in your cereal.

Hamsters are super cute.

Get a gerbil, they are the best small rodent pets.

Those are illegal in California.

doesn't mean you can't get a hold of one :D

1. drive to petsmart somewhere in phoenix, AZ
2. buy gerbil then drive home
3. ??
4. profit!

Going out of state really isn't an option, I wish I could have one shipped to me, that would be kick ass.

29 Gallon aquarium. I've heard you can keep small rodents in these, but I'm not sure if I don't want to just put fish in it again.

They could easily establish feral colonies, but that can be said of any pet.

I'm pretty settled on Roborovski hamsters. I'm not the type who needs to "cuddle" his pets. So I won't be bothering them that much. Do they come in black?

mice are pretty friendly if you choose healthy ones from a reliable pet store. most keep them as feeders and aren't handled well, so they have a bad reputation. i have a little boy, 3 months old, and i've been handling him and the other mice ever since they came to the store i work at 2 months ago. he's very affectionate, knows my smell and voice and runs to the side of his aquarium whenever he hears me. same rules for mice go for hammies; get them from a reliable pet store that handles their animals regularly. the best ones i've known are black bear, syrian and roborovski. dwarves tend to be quite saucy and nippy; i got bit by quite a few of them. hamsters are pretty stupid, too, so if you're looking for a dumb, cute, useless animal, then they're for you. mice tend to be more affectionate and playful than hamsters, so you might want them instead. female mice should be paired with other mice, and males have to be lone. both hamsters and mice have a close life span of 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 years. if you want an even better pet than either, though, get some rats or gerbils. those are the best, 'cept gerbils chew on everything and anything. :3

I'd love to have a rat, but I only have a 29 gallon aquarium.(Don't want to put fish in it, they're boring) A rat would never be happy in a 29 gallon tank, and Gerbils are illegal here, along with every other cool animal.

I've bought 2 mice on separate occasions. I've ended up taking care of 27.

Maybe I should just screw mammals and get a hermit crab.

My question is, I have an old birdcage and I was wondering if I could build it with platforms and try to put mice in there, is this possible?

you're probably best off getting several female mice for a tank that large. to me, getting a hamster would almost be a waste of space because most can't be housed together and it's funner to watch 5 mice play together rather than one hamster sleep in a corner all day.
>>321981
depends on how big the mice are, and how spaced the bars are. i wouldn't go with anything bigger than 1/4 inch space between the bars for a full grown mouse, but you'll most likely be getting a youngin so cages are out of the question if you want to be safe. best thing is an aquarium for any sized mouse, with a mesh top.
