Ugly, mutant little shits.
Argh. How could they even breed these abominations?

That's fairly easy. You just take a female munchkin and male munchkin while they're in heat and... wait, don't they teach this stuff at school?

I bet that cat is saying "kiiill meeeee!"

Aaaactually, it's recommended that the breeding partners be a munchkin + non-munchkin to avoid gene fatality.

I think they taught that kind of stuff at grad school though.

Aren't they a genetic transformation brought upon by generations living beneath trailers?

Close, but not quite true.

The original Munchkin cat was found living under a trailer in Louisiana. However, there is no evidience that supports that munchkins "evolved" to suit living under trailers.

Munchkins have a particular gene that results in the very short legs. It's either there or it's not there. On or Off. This is not the same case as a small population of cats interbreeding and gradually becoming "shorter".

Thus while the original Munchkin may have been found near a trailer, that is simply coindcidence.

Isn't he cute?!?!?

They ARE cute as hell and I want one, but I'll be damned if I pay the price of what the breeders are asking for.. $900 for a fucking CAT? I love cats, but I can think of way better things to spend my money on

A gene that if inherited from both parents kills the kitten? Wow, we certainly should be breeding for THAT!
>> Anonymous

There's probably a lot breeds that the parents shouldn't be the same breed. Such as hairless rats. Females are known for not lactating and being horrible mothers.

Actually there are plenty of other cat genes that do the exact same thing (homozygous = fatal). The munchkin is not unusual in that regard.

In grad school, they teach you how to genetically engineer cats. In grade school, they teach you basic genetics.

I dunno. Still looks to me like the cat is begging for someone to end its life.

They're cute as hell, but they have heart problems and respiratory problems.
