Hay /an/imal lovers !

I have a question about my cat. He's about 12 years old and has several odd habits.

He will sit there and howl at all hours of the day, even when I'm giving him attention. He will run off and let out these mournful cries. I don't understand. We love him, give him plenty of food and attention and he still acts like he's neglected. What's up with that ?

If it's been going on for years, it's probably just in his nature to do that. Some cats just have odd habits, I suppose.

when he meows, do you give him more attention? It's feeding his bad habits. You'd teach a dog not to bark for attention by giving him attention, and ignoring him when he barks. Same thing for a cat.

When one of my parents cats started a habit of doing that at night, they kept a squirt gun on the bedstand to squirt him when he did it. That broke him of the habit.

My cat does that too but only at like 5am when no one is awake. He also licks all the fur off his legs some reason, the vet says he's disturbed even though he seems to be the happiest cat ever.
Probably has something to do with the fact that we used to have a lot of other cats and he's the only one left, except for one new one he doesn't get along with.
