Finally, a question about marine invertebrates, my time to shine. While it's hard to tell without an overhead shot, you seem to have some kind of shore crab, probably a wharf crab but possibly, as mentioned earlier a ghost crab, or maybe a gulfweed crab. Look at this guy from overhead, if his shell tapers at all he's a gulfweed. If it's squarish, see if you can't measure the space between the eyestalks in comparison to the lengths of the actual eyestalks themselves. If the space between the two eyestalks is much shorter than the eyestalks themselves, it's a ghost crab (but, there should be a pronounced size difference between the two claws, it'll become more obvious as he/she ages). From what I can see here, the eyestalks look longer, so I'd call it a wharf crab. Also check and see if its legs are furry at all, that's a dead giveaway that it's related to marsh crabs, in the genus Sesarma with wharfies.
FFS, put a bubbler in there, or get him/her a proper aquarium. Take it from someone who's had to keep several tanks full of crabs happy, they can foul just about anything at light speed. Complex habitat is good, most shore crabs love to hide under things or burrow in pebbles. Processed food is good, but if you live near the ocean you can probably find enough snails/mussels/barnacle to keep him/her fat and happy.
