A Cat's Health Problem. Anonymous
What could be causing my cat to lose hair in patches? I have an old 13 year old female cat who seem to lose a lot of hair in patches on her legs. I got her when her prvious owner couln't ceep her anymore. I already have 2 three year old male cats. Could stress be the cause? Cand she recover from this?

I don't have a digital camera, so I can't show any pics. Thanks for any help.

Hmmm... It can't be that. If it would, it's not the legs that would be affected, but the head and neck, as your article point out. I seem to also affect mostly dogs.
My main doubt is that my two other cats would also have been infected a long time ago. I got the old lady for two month now, and she already had some missing patch of fur missing from her legs. But it seem to be getting worse recently. Could only she be sensible to the mites, if that's the case?

So, any other help?

I just checked her more closely, and it's not like theses poor dogs affected by mange. The "missing" patches are more like parts where she have way less fur than normal. You see the pink skin underneath, but it's still covered with a very fine fur. Almost like a balding man. Her belly is like that too.

over itching? Dermatitis, fleas, skin infections, and a whole host more things can cause hairloss and over scratching.

You should probably take her to the vet, or at least talk to one, there are so many causes and they'll know how to whittle them down and get her the right treatment.

Yeah, obvious solution is obvious. I will do this.

If she licking or scratching a lot? Some cats have an allergy to flea bites and just one or a few can cause them to lick themselves bare with the irritation.

OP here. You know, thinking of it, I never saw her licking herself. Ever. I only see her do her cat thing, meaning eating and sleeping. I never seen her "washing". Strange, no?
