This was on 2chan. What is it?

Chinchilla, the cutest pet ever.
>> Anonymous
Chinchillas have very soft fur. They're damned expensive, though.
>> Anonymous
They'd better be expensive, or else people would be buying them in bulk from pet stores and making a huge profit off the fur.
>> Anonymous
They die easily if not taken care of properly though. And taking proper care of them is hard.
>> Anonymous
I had one that lived for 15 years. They aren't hard to take care of at all. In fact, Chinchillas have several advantages that make them desireable pets: their waste hardly smells at all. Their fur is so dense that fleas and other parasites can't live in it becasue they suffocate (one less problem to worry about). And their food is inexpensive and easily found.

However, like many pets they do have certain needs you have to be aware of.

Chinchillas need a calm enviornment. If you live in a quiet household then it's no problem. But, if where you live has lots of people coming and going, parties, friends coming over to hang out all the time, small children running about, people yelling at the TV while the football game is on, etc, that's a recipe for disaster.
>> Anonymous
Also, I've heard that chinchillas aren't that social.

I know someone who has one of these fuzzy rat-bunnies. If you are calm and quiet you can pet him. They are super fuzzy and hop around, but we can't let it out because of the cat.

I suppose this depends on what you are looking for in in a pet.

Mine was perfectly content to be petted, would take food from people's hands, and would show no fear of people when let out to run around. This would be no different than many other small animals like rats or rabbits.

On the other hand, if you want an animal that will fetch your newspaper, sits at the door wagging its tail waiting for you to come inside after a day at work, or eagerly awaits its daily walk, then obviously a chinchilla is not going to do those things.

Some people have claimed that chinchillas are "emo" or antisocial, etc, but everyone that I have talked to that described that kind of behavior also kept the chinchilla in a stressful (not-calm) enviornment.

Guy at the pet store insists that the chinchilla will win in such a battle.

The cat doesn't seem to share this opinion. They put the rat-bunny in a giant hamster ball and it bounces around in that.

Chinchilla is cute, it is eating a mini wheat

The first time I saw a chinchilla from closer than 2 meters it did this weird hop from a still pose, like a somersault to its back and right. It was so unexpected and seemed so random I deemed the creature Awesome. Too bad I can't really have rodents as pets, I have allergies. I love rats, too. :(

They roll around in talcum powder, too, so imagine how nice they smell.

chinchillas have special fur making them ideal for allergic peeps.

Yeah, I've heard that before. But it seems they're only the easiest of a line of bad deals. It's just not a good idea for me on the long run.

i have a chinchilla and im a professional DJ, so i tend to play music 24/7. I try to keep my door close to my studio so it wont rock her face off but shes gotten totally used to it. Certain sounds she really doesnt like so when i see her react, ill turn it off. But for the most part shes fine with sounds. I dont even play music like everyone else, i have a sub that could rape the sidewalk outside.

I find that her affectionate side comes out with more contact. I dont bother her while shes sleeping but when i see her staring at me as i walk past, ill take her out and let her run around the studio while im working. The more you do it the more used to you they become and she will sit on my shoulder while i browse 4chan for 30-40 mins at a time jus watching me on the computer. I left for a vacation for a month and she wasnt allowed to run around and when i got back, she was terrified of any and all contact.

oh and she looks almost exactly like the OP, cept her fur is more even and her ears are usually more perked up. almost like a rabbit's ears cept round. She never sat like that in my hand tho, always either standing up stretched out or on all fours. She only ever sat like that when falling asleep.

Oh and if you plan on getting one, expect it to totally fuck up everything you own. Every single straight edge in my studio is fuct to hell. There are bite marks on EVERY book, shelf, room corner, piece of furniture and even a giant novelty #1 foam finger i have. She ate like half of it from the edges in.

Basically, get a pile of socks, practice ur aim... its a little game of "FUCK OFF MY SHIT U RAT BITCH" every 18 seconds.

Arkh, I think the key to your success is the consistency. If your chin has gotten used to it, that's great, but like you said about when you had gone on vacation, interruptions to the routine can be problematic.
>> Anonymous
did you know that to kill a chinchilla, companies usually electrocute their genitals so it doesn't ruin their fur?

.......
Awesome. I know this chick with a chinchilla fur scarf, I have to tell her.

they are very flammable

>>110915
yeh i think like all animals they can get used to a certain amount of disruption. To a point i guess.

>>110918
its funny cuz i yell that at mine all the time when shes eating something of mine.

Oh and i jus reread my last post(s). Dont make posts when exhausted from ur day job... fucking brain farts

I highly doubt it... Chinchilas are like turtles... It takes a real talented fella to know their gender... Those genitals are so tiny you couldn't put an electrode there. I heard they are put in a airtight box that sends a odor and colorless toxic gas that kills them.
It takes some guts to be able to kill such a cute and caring animal. Those guys shoul've had their balls electrucuted!
>> Anonymous
Also, it's usually rectal, not genital electrocution.

Apparently the best source to get Chinchillas are actually fur farms. An aquaintance of mine got hers from such a breeder, and she confirmed that the conditions are quite good. The reason for this is that they value their animals. A healthy animal has good fur.
Also the selection is good. Only downside is the moral issue, i guess. Whichever one you don't pick is a future coat. That, and you might consider this as supporting the fur industry.

don't, it craps everywhere

hai /an/, this was the place that made me want a bunny for a pet till I saw this post, now i know what pet i want. I was wondering though, do chinchilla's like to be around each other or will 1 be happy with me playing with him. I know my parents 2 dogs love each other and if one ever goes to the vets the other is depressed. So do chinchilla's share this love for friendship with another chin, or will he be happier alone.

I'll miss you Whiskers.
