Pandas: Proof that evolution doesn't always work out for the best.

Actually, the panda's evolutionary path is awesome if it weren't for human intervention.

They live in bamboo forests. And they eat bamboos. That means they're surrounded by an unlimited supply of food. A panda can sit on it's ass and stuff it's face with bamboo until it grows too big for predators to kill.

Unfortunately, humans cut down most of the bamboo forests so they're fucked.

Not a racoon. More closely related to the racoon than a panda, but still not a racoon.

"The most recent molecular-systematic DNA research places the Red Panda into its own independent family Ailuridae. Ailuridae are in turn part of a trichotomy within the broad superfamily Musteloidea (Flynn et al., 2001) that also includes the Procyonidae and the Mephitidae + Mustelidae; but unlike the Giant Panda, it is not a bear (Ursidae).[2]"

How about a Lesser Panda? Do they qualify? Either way they're adorable.
