sup /an/

A few weeks ago I came here looking for advice on a new pet. I was wanting a ferret, but was worried about how it would interact with my guinea pigs. /an/ steered me towards pet rats and ultimately convinced me.

I adopted two boys on Sunday from a breeder. Holy fuck, they are the sweetest little guys every. They're incredibly rambunctious (probably because they're still young, I'm looking forward to them chilling out a bit when they get bigger) and every time I go near their cage, they run to the top and follow as I walk around the room in hopes that I'll take them out and play with them.

I absolutely love them, /an/. In exchange for your good advice, I thank you with a pic dump of the cute little fuckers.

Also, I still haven't decided on names. One of them is a few days older than the others and has HUGE BALLS. I'm thinking of naming him Kamina.

They're both black berkshires, so it's a little hard to tell them apart.

It's easy now, because one is a lot smaller than the other, but hopefully I'll know them well enough to tell them apart when they're older.

About to nom on my DS strap.

Yeah, he's the one I might name Kamina, haha.

>>298486
What are some good tricks to teach them?

Have some pictures of my guinea pigs, too.

I had the rats on the floor playing at the same time as them today, but I think it was a little overwhelming for the rats. I'm going to wait until they're older and more used to my apartment before trying that again.

Also, I was severely dissapointed, the rats seem completely disinterested in the Cheese Yogies I bought them.

They do, however, fucking love the few pieces of shredded mozzarella I've given them as well as little pieces of bread.

i taught mine to come to me and stand on their hind legs when i snapped my fingers. you have to give them a treat each time, but its cool to show guests

Haha, mine already do that, but I think they're just excited about the new place and want the attention since they came from a place with lots more rats to play with.

And that's about it for pictures.

The older rat just scaled my back so he could sit on my shoulder and watch me type. (I'm sitting on my bed)

wjerwhe so fucking cute.

Thanks again, /an/

Any name suggestions would be totally awesome, too.

Congrats on the new ratties! I'm glad you decided to get them! I don't blame you for being obsessed with them. As for the cheese yogurts, they may become more interested in different treats as they become more use to everything. My girls eat everything now (or, at least try it out first)
>> lollilops
Name them Alfred and Chives, since they look like they're wearing little tuxedos. You'll have some badass butler rats.

Holy balls batman. Can you actually neuter rats? Or is it just not worth it.

How bad is the trail of piss? Was thinking about getting a pair of rats. No breeders or rescues around here unfortunately, so I'm stuck with Petsmart.

can we get a pic of you too? the hair excites me

Simon and Kamina sound like fine names for truly manly rats. especially if Simon likes to burrow

Not op, but I just got two rats myself (To females and I'm a dude) and the piss isn't bad at all. Guinea pigs shit all over though, I don't see how she can stand them.

D'AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWW. Very cute, OP. I'm glad you decided to go with the rats... I was one of the people steering you that direction in the other thread and I'm glad it worked out for you. Rats are the best. Just wait until they get older... they are so lovable.

Call them by their names a lot, they will catch on soon enough and come when called. It's useful when you're letting them run around the house and can't find them.

I never taught any of mine any tricks, except to use a litter box.

How'd you manage that? That'd be dead useful. I was looking at some in petsmart today...so cute. I was tempted to buy a pair then and there, but they had NO rat cages at all.

I want to lick the balls of your rat

Ferret cages are awesome for rats, but expensive.

You can litter box train them by picking up their poop and moving it to the litter box over and over again until they get the idea. Sounds like fun, eh? It works, though. Have the litter be a different type than the stuff that you use on the bottom of the cage.... like I have Carefresh Ultra on the cage floor, and Yesterday's News in their litter box. Not all rats will go for it, though.

Definitely worth a try.

I was looking at the ferret cages and thinking that they looked suitable because they had stuff to climb on that wasn't all wire ramps and such, but I wasn't sure if it was sized too big and the rats would be able to shove their legs through the bars or anything.

It's really not that bad a few drops here and there. It's completely colorless and odorless as far as I can tell, too. They might as well be dripping water out.

The guinea pigs do poop outside of their cage, but they usually run to a corner of the room to do so. Every so often they poop on me or my bed, but it's not watery or anything so it's easy to clean up.

>>298738
Eh, I tripfag on /cgl/, no reason to fag up two boards with my face. The rats are definitely cuter than me.

>>298685
Alfred and Walter could work, those are the two most badass butlers I can think of (Batman and Hellsing)

I was having breakfast this morning and HOLY SHIT the love Kix cereal. I don't think I've ever seen something get so excited about anything. I put it against the bars of the cage and the older was so eager he chomped on it and the bar as well, but was too afraid to risk losing the cereal to open his mouth and let go of the bar. I had to pull it away from him and try again, lol.

I have some toys in the cage, a log thing to run through and chew on, some edible stick things and one of those knobbly-wobbly chewstick things with a big nut in the middle. They seem more interested in wresting with each other than playing with anything else, though. They don't fight too rough, occasional squeaks, but I've noticed no wounds or pulled fur so I think it's fine. Any ideas on what I could put in there to distract them from each other, or is it just what young boy rats do?

Those piggies are VERY cute!

OP you'd make my day if you named your rats after butlers.

Dammit, you're making my day with these cute pictures and the temptation to go out and buy a pair of rats myself.
