Ok, I have a little baby ferret, shes about 3 months, and as hard as I try, I can't litter train her. She goes in the boxes I've set around the house, occasionally, they are in the corners, don't move and are cleaned for the most part, I leave a little in to keep her going to them.

The problem is, she is stone fucking deaf, as are most ferrets with her markings. So I can't yell to punish her, and by the time I get to her, shes already done her duty.

Anyone have any advice?

I know a last resort for dog housebreaking is to tie its leash to you so you can catch it immediately when it squats. Is there any practical way to do this for ferrets? Or to just only keep her in whatever room you're in? I don't have ferrets, so I can't give much more help.

She pretty much has free range over the house, well the living rooms and my bedroom, you can keep an eye on her at all times, and its been pretty much ferret proofed. Her cage is only really there for sleeping, food, and another litter box, although she has been sleeping with me a lot lately, she crawls in between the two pillows up by my head and passes out.

Her current leash/harness is very hard to keep on her, shes still quite small, even with a rat harness, she can squirm out, and lately it has become a play toy, pulling it around the house, and such. I'm probably going to buy another in a month when shes a tad larger.

As for keeping her in her cage as punishment, she chews the bars ravenously, even with bitter apple sprayed on the areas.

Also, ferrets poop there full load in like under three seconds, so even if you full on run, its out and she is done.

spray vinegar where you don't want her to crap
and some ferrets prefer it if you just put newspaper in the corner instead of a box, that's what i've always done and now they only ever use one corner or their cage.

Dont' use the cage as punishment, or else she'll never be able to relax in there and will feel like she's being punished every time she's in it.
Why does she have free range if she isn't housebroken? You don't do it with puppies or rabbits before they're trained, and shouldn't with ferrets either. Confine her to a smaller space somehow (maybe a room, or a playpen) and get her consistently housebroken there first-- it will be easier. When she's trustworthy, THEN she can have free-range.

Put the crap into the litterbox. They like to go in the same place.

What does ferret proofing means? I want to have a ferret but dont want it to die in the first 24 hours.

Ferret proofing is like waterproofing, you coat them in wax or oil (depending on the variety of ferret) and let it soak in.

"Ferretproofing" basically just means checking your house so that ferrets, being the curious bastards they are, don't get to any dangerous place they shouldn't be in. This means stuff like inside reclining chairs with moving parts that could squish them, big electrical appliances that might have some interesting hole for them, etc.
