Ok /an/, sorry to tell this long boring story, but I'm kind of pissed off and I need some opinions on whether I should be pissed off or if I should just forget it.

Since the beginning of the summer, I've been looking for a female russian tortoise to accompany my other male and female. Every time I went into this particular Petco, I would check to see if they had a female, find out they were all males, then go home. I would do this every couple of weeks to the point that I was starting to get recognized by the employees. During this time, the price of tortoises was $60. More in next post:

About a month ago (the price was still 60), I go over to the tortoise enclosure, see only two males, and get disappointed. The lady working with the tortoises told me that there were three in the back that were taken off the floor due to illness during shipping, and that she didn't know how to sex them, so she told me to call tomorrow because the lady that was taking care of them would be working. I call the store and find out one of them is female, and that she was going to get some shots and some antibiotics on Thursday, then three weeks from that Thursday they would be available for sale. I called on a Monday, so it was basically a month wait.

Well, yesterday was the day she was put on the floor, and I saw her, she was definitely a female, and she definitely had some dry shell rot marks on her shell, but nothing serious enough to discourage me from purchasing her and isolating her for a while from the other two. I check the price, and lo and behold, it's $99. I was pretty pissed. I can understand it was a sale, but seriously? I was going to buy that tortoise a month ago if it hadn't been for their fault in making the thing sick in the first place. I'm wondering, do I have a strong enough case to convince a manager to give me sale price, or should I just forget it? If I do have a case, what would be the best way of going about convincing them to sell it to me for sale price?

Protip: Petco is a money making machine, they wont give you your money back, that's the price and you paid it. You should have prepaid or put a deposit down.

No, I haven't paid it yet. If it's 99 I'm not going to pay it. I remember working at Walmart as a teen, and watching hillbillies bitching at the store manager until he gave them the price they asked for on that particular item, even when they had less of a case than mine. I'm wondering if I can do something similar.

You're contemplating buying a diseased animal for moar money? I wouldn't make the purchase.

don't support wild-caught reptiles, you fuckwit. if you are even thinking of buying a tortoise from petco, you seriously fail.

spend a bit more money to buy one from a breeder that won't be stressed out and full of parasites and god knows what else.

you must be pretty stingy cause this is not expensive

I used to ass. manage at a petco.

The reptiles go on sale a lot, probably about 1/3 of the time a particular species is on sale. Ball pythons are like $29 or $39 for example on sale instead of $79. I bet they were on PALS Special and are not anymore, but will be again in a few weeks. My petco never moved many tortoises, so she'll probably still be there when they go on sale. Or you can ask the manager to honor the sale price. I would have done it. If you still have an ad then they'll almost certainly do it. They didn't sell for shit at my store so I would wheel and deal on those fuckers like hell to get them out of the store so I could use their primo real estate for a big jacksons or red tail or something.

If he gets an attitude tell him that the tortoises are in an inhumane enclosure and you are going to the top of the chain. Unless they have one of those big free standing octagon tanks that are like 5sq feet.
That happened at a store close to me so the whole region didn't have tortoises for like 8 months till things died down. That was fine with me though.

This is the one thing I like about PetCo more than PetSmart. Our animals NEVER go on sale. Not even the fucking betta fish. We get PetCo fliers in our local paper, and there's always some sort of animal on sale.

Why not state that you know the tortoise was ill and since it still looks a little sick, you should be allowed the sale price?

The Petco I worked for usually would give the sale price if the customer bitched about it enough...

But why the FUCK are you giving any money to a store that obviously neglects their already fucked up wild caught herps?? You're like one of those retards who buys a puppy from a pet store knowing full well it came from a puppy mill.... do the right thing and support a bredder or store that takes good care of their animals.
