I'm currently going to grooming school and we get yorkies in all the time. Normally we end up shaving most of their fur off for the owner's convenience. If you don't want to brush it that often then I recommend just asking them to shave him clean and leave a little more length on the head and face (this keeps them from looking like rats.)
Get a shave over the body and a "short mutt face". Mutt being the operative word. Some people call it a teddy face or a panda face, so you might have to specify.
A good example of what I'm trying to explain can be seen here: http://kingyorkie.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/different-yorkie-cuts-2.jpg It's cute, sanitary, and doesn't require a lot of work besides a little brushing and repeated grooming visits every 4-8 weeks to keep it nice and tight.
Hope that helps, OP!
