So we just got our first 'major' pet- a netherland dwarf rabbit. We've looked after tropical fishes before, but never have we tried to look after something of this scale (dwarf lol).

Anyway, is there anything major we need to take into consideration..I mean, we've read the books, checked the sites etc, but any additional notes would be useful. And like, moar pictures too.

boil 'em, mash 'em, put 'em in a stew

er, no, notice it's a 'dwarf', how much meat do you expect to get from one of these things?

Get it fixed by a vet with decent rabbit experience at about half a year's age. They tend to get pissy and die off in reproductive organ cancer at 5-6 years.

Consider getting it a rabbit friend, also fixed. They might not be as gay for you any more, but they don't die of boredom if you happen to have a job.

All the hay it wants and all the water it wants and enough space to romp in. Otherwise it dies of indigestion before it gets fat.

I had 3. Make sure you spay/neuter them. And if you get more, MAKE SURE you know if they are female or male. 2 males always fight, male+female always fuck...2 females is the key since they work together.

You must find a vet who knows what the fuck they're doing. My rabbit almost got put down because we took him to a vet who was a complete and utter idiot when it came to rabbits. A good, experienced vet will be more expensive but it's worth it.

Like other anonymousi have said, get 'em fixed. Especially with a dwarf, which (if I remember correctly) will live longer than larger breeds.

Other than that: enrichment. Rabbits have a ton of personality. Get to know your rabbit, find out what he/she likes. Rabbit friendly toys and activities = fun for the whole family.

Also, rabbit.org.

Wait, isn't it the other way round, don't two FEMALE rabbits fight? My books tell me that they are very possessive concerning territory. Male rabbits are supposed to get along well.
