/an/ i need your help. My hamster is fine when hes outside his cage (aquarium) and fine when i am playing with him inside there, but after i take my hand out he just lays on his wheel, breathing very deeply and quickly. Seems to be happening to my other hamster as well and i cant figure out why. I dont use pine or cedar bedding, but the aquarium is divided for the two hamsters because they dont get along. Does he have cancer? no seriously, whats wrong with them

pic related, its hamster #1 pre-sickness

I'm sorry, your hamster is going to die.

An aquarium? Like a glass one? If so, that's why. Shitty ventilation.

While Aquariums are often used, it's important that they have good ventilation. Make sure there is a screen lid (not teeny holes, but small enough to keep them in) and don't put shit on top of the cage. Keep out of direct sun light, etc.

depending on the size of the hamster and the size of the aquarium, it's going to take a while to run out of oxygen, so it really depends on how quickly all this happens.

You know what would be sweet? Cut wholes in a huge aquarium and put in computer fans all around to give it good ventilation. It would probably scare the hell out of your hamster, but it would look fucking intense.

Ditch the aquarium and get a cage.
They're hamsters, not fucking fish.
