Ticks, Dogs, and poisons Anonymous
Hello /an/. I am the owner of a healthy rottweiler dog. Yet, I have a problem: My neightbor refuses to cut his lawn, which has grown to jungle levels, and many parasites fester inside, parasites that find their way into my dog. It has come to give him an anti-tick poison every month, and I would rather not give this to my poor dog. Is there some kind of natural way that does not endanger my dog or that keeps ticks off my lawn? Thanks.

Off topic but that's some fine Nothern Mantis kung fu there...

That mantis should have brought a priest/healer.

Aren't there regulations that necessitate some maintenance of one's lawn? If your dog's getting parasites now, as time passes I wonder if your neighbor's landscaping may turn into a public health hazard. I would contact the homeowner's association, the landlord, or whoever has jurisdiction over the plot to put some pressure on him.

Another, perhaps nicer way to go about it--why, exactly, does your neighbor not cut his lawn? If it's just because he's lazy, perhaps you could offer to do it for him? He might take it as a gesture of kindness and appreciate you for it, while you get the benefit of not having a jungle next to your home and a parasite-free dog. ^_^

Where's your dog going to get parasites specificaly from this man's lawn, hmm?

That dogs challenge rating is too high, that mantis is a goner.

Maybe with a raid they can take the dog on. :D

I'm sure he doesn't want to become his neighbor's bitch. I know from experience that asshole neighbors don't care if you mow their lawn, they never thank you or anything.

HOAs can be a real bitch; if you have one report your neighbor quick. Or just cut it for him the next time he leaves the house. if he doesn't like it then too damn bad for him

Yeah, seriously. They complain about what color your house is and if paint's peeling, I'm certain they'd think an overgrown yard is making their neighborhood look unappealing. And rightly so.

I use that stuff that you put in a line down their back. It's fairly expensive, but it works. I have a dog with some kinda skin condition, and if I don't use the stuff it gets worse.

Honestly? Just suck it up and use Frontline. It's expensive as hell but it works. "Natural" remedies have never seemed to cut it, in my experience.

Seconded about reporting the guy to your homeowner's association or whatever, though.

Use Advantix. (Or Frontline, or whatever you like - but Advantix protects against mosquitoes, so...superior) It's perfectly safe and gets the job done. I understand not wanting to use unnatural things on your pet, but the alternative is a pet with Lyme disease or Rocky Mt Spotted Fever...sooo...
