Iguana's tail problems Anonymous
hey /an/ I have a problem. after my return from vacation, I discovered my green iguana's tail to look like it does in the picture. My sister who was watching him while I was away says she didn't notice it two days ago. The picture is real crappy, so for those who can't make it out, the tail is whithered and (probably dead) on the tip. I dont know whats happening, so if anyone can help me, I'd really appreciate it.

Maybe it's shedding? I have no idea

Cut the tail off. Lizards grow them back.

OP here. It looks like its gangrene of the tail. I'm having it surgically removed this Friday.

I think it's wasting disease.
Or a stress-related illness.

ps
fire your sister.

Necrosis.. I've seen this on a few lizards, including 2 of my monitors. Dont know exactly what caused it on my monitors but on some lizards its due to a shedding problem. The only solution is to take it to the vet and have the necrotic tissue removed.

I work at an exotics vet. Your iguana is either too big for its containment and is busting it open, or he can have pretty common tail grangene, which DOES NOT look like you think it will.

Take him to the vet
