The worry is usua more geared to pathogens cats may carry as opposed to the likely hodd the cat may attack as you hear improperly trained 'attack/guard' dogs doing. Cat spreading a disease to a baby is just as likely as a well trained dog attacking a baby/toddler, but some people like to keep their house pet free for thee first two or three years of the child's life just in case.
