no. the best you can do is vacuum religiously with a hepa-filter vacuum, keep your bedroom always closed off so you have more hours of the day spent in an allergy free zone, and get weekly allergy shots.

There are tons of allergy medications you can take to help. My boyfriend recently did this for a couple months after I got a cat (he really wanted one as well but is allergic) to help with stuffy/runny nose and itchy eyes and sneezing and whatnot.
Actually though, he's fine now around the cat, I think he built up immunity. I've heard it happening with others as well, so if you love cats and can deal with your allergies for a while, get one!
And yes vacuuming and keeping it out of your bedroom (so you don't wake up not being able to breathe with a cat sleeping next to your face) and such will help.

My husband is like that. He has cat allergies, but got used to ours, and also had a cat when he was younger that he got used to as well. One of ours is a medium haired cat with lots of undercoat though, so when she starts blowing coat I have to brush her all the time and we have to vacuum more because he gets sneezy. I am slightly allergic to unfamiliar cats as well, but it's usually cats that aren't bathed well/fed well and they shed a lot of greasy nasty hair. =(

OP, make sure when you get your cat to feed good food (read: if you can buy it at the supermarket, you probably don't want it) because this will lessen the shedding quite a bit, and consequently, your suffering. You CAN bathe your cat, but make sure you clip its nails before the bath. Also, benadryl.

The part of a cat that makes you allergic is their saliva. I know there are medicines you give your cat that make them not lick their hair, but its not very pleasant for them and I don't recommend it.

As others have just find some allergy medicines that work for you, and be sure to brush/bath your cat frequently as that helps reduce your reaction. I'm allergic to cats and I have no problem once I found good medication.
