hey /an/

Last week I was scratching my dog and spotted 2 mature fleas on my hand.

Not one to fuck around I went to my local pet store and got some Frontline Plus (Pic Related) and applied it immediately.

Was not here today when my girlfriend gave the dog its first bath since the application. She said it was a slaughter and plenty of dead fleas.

I get home tonight and give her a thorough exam and it seems that there are a few crawling around - but they are all tiny in comparison to the bastards I saw earlier.

The question now is how long until my dog is tiny flea free?

TLDR: Fleas... they suck.

Bath with animal shampoo and shit... keeps natural oils in hair -- needed for frontline to works properly. Depending on season he/she might always have a few fleas hanging about.... Try not to bath it too much

Also could be your city's pest control program - they do spray pesticides inside of city limits.

Some of the fleas are probably new fleas that have just jumped on and haven't ingested the poison yet. Get a flea comb and groom nightly, be sure to vaccuum a lot (and dispose of the bags).

Pesticides work on the fleas but not on the eggs.
The reason for the tiny fleas is that they hatched after the roundup. The egss are not on the dog but somewhere in the environment. Like the places your dog sleeps at.

Whatever you end up doing to kill the fleas, keep using the Frontline Plus.

We used to have fleas bad, and ticks all over the yard. We live down in the woods, so you can imagine how bad they would be. We started using Frontline Plus on our animals (German Shepherds, cats, Rat Terriers) about four years ago and the fleas disappeared entirely, ticks became fewer and fewer each year and now we never get them, anywhere in the yard. Coincidence maybe, but I swear by Frontline Plus. Also, it's lasted the longest of anything; our shep has ridiculously thick fur, and the Frontline lasts about all month, irregardless. Just let it soak in a while before bathing the dog.

hay op, im a Pet groomer and over the past year ive been noticing a HUGE increase in fleas so i looked into it and found from a few vets and such that they are finding that fleas are becoming amune to frontline AND advantage. i recently started using Revolution and have had great luck w/ it and recommend it to all my customers. unfortunately the more we need the flea controls we are going to see them work less and less, fleas and flea eggs are EXTREAMLY hardy creatures and build amunities as fast as you can make a new preventative. good luck! its a harsh battle and 1/2 the time now fleas win!

Thanks for the extra comments

I spent last week grooming her and didn't get a good chance to give her a good once over over the weekend. I started to groom her today and quickly decided that there were to many of them to pick at.

I gave her a bath while brushing with the flea comb - dipping it in bleach water to kill any fleas stuck to the comb and then clean water before re applying it to my dog. Worked wonders. During the bath, I probably killed as many as 2 days worth of hand grooming. If I had to guess a number ~50.

ATM: I am vacuuming every day and washing her bed every other day. Not convinced the Frontline Plus is doing all that it promised as I have not picked any dead fleas off her during the grooming process. This being my first time with Fleas, I am not entirely sure if we are winning the battle but wont be giving up any time soon.

If it keeps up I shall post some pics of what I am up against and heed any advice you knowledgeable flea-killers might give.

OP here:

Squeezed on an extra helping of the Frontline Plus on her this morning - seems to have had a very positive result w/ the # of fleas cut in half (if not more)

The vacuuming is on-going and washing her bed every other night.

Thanks for all the recommendations!

Don't put any more frontline on your dog, putting more then one application on within 30 days can make them sick
