I just need someone to talk to Anonymous
My 6 year old golden has been displaying pnumonia like symptoms for the past week, and has had the life basically sucked out of him. Today I took him to the vet for a "just to be sure" exam.

Turns out my dog has advanced, extremely aggressive lung cancer.

They gave him at most two weeks until it kills him the hard way. He's just basically had the life sucked out of him and is tired all the time, in addition to him having to breath heavily all the time. I'm going to have him put down over the weekend. I just feel awful right now.

I can sympathise. I lost a dog to lymphosarcoma when he had just turned eight (and barely had any grey hairs), it's still a bit painful to think about. One day he was fine, the next he was blind and could barely move, and I had him put to sleep right before Christmas. It's going to be a hard road ahead - you're going to think about 'what if medicine could have turned it around?' but it's always just a crapshoot on whether you're just prolonging the suffering. You're doing what you can and that's all that matters, it sounds sappy but just think about the good times and make his last few days as comfortable as you can.

I'm so sorry to hear this. My cat of 12 years had kidney failure last year, it came on fairly sudden, and there was nothing to do put have her put down.

I'm sure it's even worse, seeing as how your dog is only 6. But I agree with other comments, you're doing the right thing by ending her pain.

Fuck you had to remind me. We had to put my dog down because of lung cancer almost 2 years ago. I still cry when I think about it. We had her for ten years, she was like my little sister. And it killed me when they put her down, she hid her face on my chest as they put the needle in her.

I know how you feel man, It sucks ass. But that is the best way for him to go at this point. give him whatever treat he wants etc give him a nice big steak and lots of love.

Losing an animal to sickness is really painful. Sorry to hear about this. Make sure you get your dog a nice treat and take him to his favourite place if he has one - even if it's just in the car.

(( I work at a vet's office ))

The best thing you can do is put him down before the cancer eats him alive. Its a very painful condition, I just had to put down the clinic cat because it turned out he had carcinoma in his lungs. He was my baby, but there isnt anything you can do for them at this point. Just relieve his pain, don't let the cancer kill him, it is a bad way to go.

We got a new dog 2 weeks ago, and the other day he killed our pet cat of 10 years.

Then 2 days later another old dog we had was put down because she had a tumour and was constantly in pain.

Bad week for pets.

Losing a pet is one of the hardest things I've been though. It hurt so badly to have something so wonderful in your everyday life taken away from you abruptly.

To me, I think the pain was doubly worse because it wasn't just a pet--it was *my* pet. What if it was *my* fault that this happened? My negligence? My hesitation? My dog couldn't speak or take care of itself, it was up to me to take care of him.

To that, I will just say to let go of those feelings. You and I know very well that we cared for our dogs to the best of our abilities, and that there's only so much you can do.

I grieved for a long time. Now, when I'm alone, I find myself saying my dog's name to myself quietly and remembering all the good times I've had with him. Though the sadness will never quite go away, neither will the joy from these fond memories.

You need to do the right thing and bend up a coat hanger noose like micheal vick would have. That or just wait till you lose a couple more animals then have the dog put to sleep.
