My grandmother's farmed chickens, and she is of the opinion that chickens that are born with multiple legs or heads are born from double-yolked eggs.
Of course, nobody has yet selected double-yolked eggs and continuously viewed them under the incubating light to see if this was the case, but since the germinal disc is usually attached to the membrane holding the yolk together, it is a fair assumption that a double yolked egg may have two fertilised germinal discs..
Apparently doouble-headed chickens don't live long because they eat double the feed, and since chickens can't tell if they are full, their esophagus literally blocks up and explodes.
