>>295051 DO NOT GIVE BABY DUCKS BREAD. IT WILL EXPAND IN THEIR CROPS AND KILL THEM. Other than that, it's not nutritious at all and it's not good to get them used to eating people food.
For starters, buy more than one duck. If you don't, you will be Mama and it will NEVER LEAVE YOU THE FUCK ALONE. Those cute baby peeps turn into gigantic SHRIEKS whenever you move more than three or four feet away and it will never shut up. Enjoy having a smelly bird cage on your bed right next to your pillow until it's old enough to sleep outside. I found that putting in an old shirt that smelled like me in with my duck kept it from freaking out during the night. On the plus side, you'll never stop being Mama, so it'll always follow you around and stay social.
Keep your ducklings inside until they're fully feathered. Down doesn't protect them from the elements very well. If you have a heat lamp, they can stay in the garage / basement / chicken coop, but if you don't they HAVE to stay in the house with you. Dry hay and newspapers work well as bedding; don't put in any cloth that you don't want to throw away, because it WILL get soaked in shit.
