My 7 year old cousin calls those mermaid coins.

Sand Dollar. Never seen one alive myself...

I went down to South Carolina one year and these kids in the condo below us kept collecting the live ones and just drying them out on their porch.
I thought it was terrible. Also the kids stole our towels.
We wanted to murder them.

Damn brats - their parents need a public spanking for not raising them properly.

I didn't even know that was a living thing. I thought it was a shell or some shit.

I accidentally dried a starfish once, it gave an almighty stink and I didn't know where it came from or what it was.

I am guessing the sand dollars also give almighty stinks when they dry out.

No, but when someone collects 200+ sanddollars that were probably around the shore to breed and dries 'em out in the sun under my deck where I can smell their stank flesh, yeah, I'm a little peeved.
They were total brats anyway. Threw things at crocodiles and yelled 24/7.

You all should watch the Planet Earth special on the oceans. The starfish/sand dollar section is some CRAZY SHIT. I will never look at one of these things in the same way.
