How's the veterinary job in your country? How much do you have to travel to you nearest vet and how much does he earn?

Im studying veterinary next year and im thinking of leaving my country once im done, and I kind of need more information to decide where to go, I was thinking maybe Canada or the US but i dont really know hows the job there.

Because the US sucks.

Closest vet is about 9 miles away. Closest emergency vet is about 20 miles away. They seem to be paid well.

There are about five vets within a 15 minute driving radius of where I live, but the nearest emergency/exotic vet is 45 minutes away. I live in a medium-sized rural college town.

I looked into being a vet, even interned with a few. They all told me that the pay is not nearly as good as you'd think, and that it's certainly not a profession you should go into for the money.

Also, you should be aware that your certification (if it's from outside the US) probably won't mean a lot once you get here. You'll have to get certified all over again.

I guess you could just come over here and be a vet tech, that's like the equivalent of a nurse here. They don't really make awesome money either, but there is a lot less school involved, and it would probably be easier to find a job.

I had looked into becoming a vet, myself, but my advisor talked me out of vet school and afterward, I considered becoming a vet tech. I decided not to because of the pay.

Vet techs are like nurses in that they have all of the responsibilities -- if not more responsibilities -- than nurses do, but the pay is ridiculous. In my area, vet techs make something like $7 an hour!

I believe the median income for a vet tech in the US is around $14, but of course it differs greatly based on the area.
