Molly
Hi /an/, I've never posted here before but my boyfriend suggested I do so. I just bought a Molly fish from walmart and I think it is pregnant. It was much fatter than the other Mollies and for some reason I was amused at the prospect of baby fish. I read some where about Mollies getting Molly bloat from not having salt in their tank. I don't know if walmart puts salt in the Mollies tank or not but the other ones seemed fine. I put a little aquarium salt in with my Molly and she seems to be doing fine so I am hoping bloat is not the case here. If anyone has any advice or information on caring for my new Molly I would appreciate it. I've never had a saltwater fish before. Most recently I've kept ryukins and black moors. The picture here is one I just took with my cell phone.

But you are supposed to use aquarium salt? That's what the information card next to their tank at the store said. =X

You trusted the sign at Wal-Mart more than the internet and put salt in a freshwater fish's aquarium?

Good job.
You just killed your fucking fish.

many fish, YES INCLUDING FRESHWATER, need a bit of salt in their aquarium. obviously not as much as saltwater fish, but usually it's a few tsp to the gallon. it's not like you're throwing a whole box of it into a 20 gallon tank.
stupid.

OP is stupid too for calling it a saltwater fish.

Go to www.aquahobby.com and read! there is a lot of informations.

Many people don't know anything about fish care, even the ones who sell them. Maybe OP is just new to fish care, maybe OP is a troll.

Molly's are brackish water fish... they live in estuaries where salt and fresh water meets, so putting salt in their water is definitely okay and recommended.

Also, they're a freshwater fish technically, not salt. Although I have heard rumors of some people managing to keep mollies in their marine tank.

If she has babies... she'll most likely eat them ALL unless you take measures to protect them. You can buy fish-nursery type things for livebearers at the store. If you want your babies to survive, I recommend doing this.

She also could be a balloon mollie, and not pregnant, hard to tell from the picture but I reckon she is preggo!

Good luck!

It looks pregnant

I had the same thing happen to me when I bought a black molly from pets mart

Unfortunately, one my betta ate one, the rest all hid in the gravel and ended up dying in their hiding places

It looks like a balloon molly, and balloon mollies always look pregnant.
