Well I was pruning a tree in my front yard and as I was pruning I happened to notice a robin's nest. I didn't touch the birds and I verified that the mother came back to care for them. I wish I hadn't pruned that tree though. Two baby chicks are in the nest.

You didn't damage the foundation of the nest tho', right?
No it is intact, though I do worry about making the chicks more vulnerable to predators ie cats. Mother is still taking care of them this afternoon so that is good news. I have set out a dish of water so the mother can easily get something to drink.
I have a related questionif you touch some of the chicks on a nest is there any risk that the mother will stop caring about them if she detects your scent or something?
YES FOR GOD'S SAKE DO NOT TOUCH THEM.
>>272345No, that's bullshit. Birds have crap for a sense of smell. If they ditch the nest, it's because you bothered them while they were there, or rearranged things enough that they think some predator is dicking around.
