Relocating Old Animals Anonymous
I have a very old (16 years) pembroke welsh corgi. She is rather blind, and quite deaf, and getting fragile in her old age (kind of clumsy, and has trouble standing up after long periods of sitting down, and climbing up stairs). I have seen a vet, and she is in no pain. My auntie wants to take her home with her, in the car, and it is a very long drive, (upwards of 7 hours) and I wonder if it is safe for her, with the long drive along crappy roads, and the shock of a completely new area and schedule. (I am a student, my auntie is retired, so she'll get fed more often etc etc). I am quite attatched to her, and her to me.

For those that think TL;DR: Is it safe to relocate an old frail dog?

Pic sorta related.

Oh yeah, incase you're wondering (yeah right) she is an ex-show champion, and the mother of the norweigian show champion.

Unlike cats, dogs are far more attatched to their companions than their routines and surroundings. She will be sad at the change in company. I'm sure your aunt will be kind to her, but she will pine for you.
I dont think the drive will bother her, she'll probably just sleep.

...then why?

Tell your aunt to piss off and get her own damn dog. Seriously, if you have a dog that's liable to kick off any time, why would you send it away to die with someone it doesn't know? That's really cruel.
