Hey, /an/...
I have a kitty, Peanut, at home. I've had her for 8 years. She claimed me as her human and I love her unconditionally.

I'm away at college and I recently adopted another kitty. He's claimed me, too.

When I go home for visits will Peanut hate me? Will there be an epic battle of the kitties? Or should I not worry about it and be glad I have two wonderful pets now?

epic battle when/if you come home from college. Otherwise the kitty's will just scent mark you all over again. But I could be wrong.

I mean, if you bring your new cat with the old cat. Old cat will likely just scent mark you like usual.

don't worry about it for now, enjoy it until they are destined to meet. Then when you go home, keep the college kitty in a seperate closed off room, spend a lot of time with the old cat, and let them sniff, meow, whatever at each other under the door for a week, then carefully introduce the two to each other. Just dumping them in the same living space would be bad... like crossing the streams bad.

My family's cats hardly care at all if we come home with a strange cat's scent on us, even if that cat was a 3 month old tiger

Yep, the best cats are the ones that pick you out instead of you picking them out

If you want to bring them together, get a kitten pen for the incomer. Feed them in the same room. Let the free one in the same room as the kitten pen, let it sniff the new cat. It's probably good to put some of the scent of the newcomer over the other cat's stuff as well - not too much.

When you've done this for a while, and you want to bring them together, take the incomer out of the pen and feed them together. See how it goes. You might want to pen the incomer again for a couple of times. If they hit it off, then great.

You may still get issues - I always think the best way is to let them resolve the issues rather than keep them seperate.

Peanut isn't a kitty anymore, so it could be, if you're lucky, that she'll adopt the new cat.

Cats don' fucking care as long as you feed them

Sometimes separate litter boxes help ease the tension. Think if you suddenly got a roommate who was always going when you needed to go.

Actually that goes to dogs. They're more carefree while cats get too jealous.
