Hey /an/, last week I had to get my amazing dog (an English black lab, pictured) put down because her cancer left her with severe anemia and she was just in a terrible condition. I stayed with her until the very end, and it broke my heart. I miss her a lot of a lot. However, I'm certain that I will eventually want to have another canine companion. Does anyone who's ever been in a similar situation have advice on if it would be a good thing to get the same breed/color? I know it sounds silly, but I don't know if I would want a physical reminder of her.
I read in a dog magazine that it's better to get a totally different looking dog. You shouldn't try to find a "replacement" because it'll never be exactly like your old dog and will only made you sadder.
>>207399Is right. Get a different looking dog, even if it's just a yellow lab. If you have the time and patience, it's good to start again with a puppy or younger dog.
