Ferret Friday!!

Also -- I have a 4 year old female ferret and I think she's developing adrenal gland disease. She never grew in her winter coat and now the fur on her tail is thinning. She also has bouts of gnawing/itching her at her sides in the middle of playtime. (don't worry, she's got a vet visit scheduled!) I have been reading about the various treatments and wanna know about /an/on's experiences with surgery, lupron, melatonin supplements, etc.

>>fur on her tail is thinning

this can happen everynow and then without being anything bad

>>She also has bouts of gnawing/itching her at her sides in the middle of playtime

my ferrets always did that ...

still go to the vet though, just in case

my ferret had very advanced adrenal disease, and melatonin kept him alive for about 6 months longer than he should have been
so that would probably help your ferret if you start soon

if your ferret has little black specks on her tail, try washing just the tail every day (or every other day) with antibacterial soap. make sure you rinse it VERY well

also, at 4 years old she's pretty much at the prime time to get adrenal disease, so it's not at all unlikely
