Cheetahs are the only species still alive by the genus Acinonyx, their closest relative is the Cougar, and they both share the common ancestor similar to the ocelot. Ocelot -> Golden Cats -> Large cats on an evolutionary timeline. That being said, the Cheetahs are in genetic trouble, and inbreeding is seen in a large portion of the animal community.
