Every couple days I'll be sitting here on the computer and I'll hear a cat meowing outside my house. It's an odd meow and it almost sounds like he's singing like cats do in those old cartoons.

So, do cat's actually sing? And what is the purpose?

Pic not related, but the cat does look an awful lot like this...though older...and he has a little bell around his neck.

cats will gather in groups to mate.

It could be crying to come in. Some cats have a weird meow.

I once had a cat that would do a bark-like meow. Made me laugh every time.

It's owner (sadly) might have abandoned him/her, so it might want to come inside for food, or it might be a female in heat because when female cats go in heat they meow in a very loud and annoying way.

Disregard that post about how it might be a girl, but it still might have been abandoned.

It could also be deaf. I have an incredibly inbred deaf cat who sings at around 2am every morning.
