My cats are noisy ? Dan ?
We have two burmese cats, 8 months old and they are lovely, affectionate little kitties but the noise level is spiralling out of control.

They are totally addicted to food, they cry for it constantly and follow us everywhere, have been since a young age. I asked the vet and he said it's normal when they're young. I asked the internet and a lot of people said it's good to just leave dry food out and feed them protein rich food once a day. We tried that and they both just eat until they regurgitate, and they do, then akin to tailor begin eating again.

These cats eat everything that isn't nailed down, a couple of months back when they were much younger we went down to the park for a kick and came back to a mess of baker's delight rolls, which I thought was odd for a cat to steal rolls from the cupboard. They eat "stuff" regularly now (cardboard or anything else left around) and regurgitate it afterwards..

To the point... they are crying from 5am for food (we don't let them in our rooms), they cry for food, loud, louder if they can't see you... we don't know what to do. We're prinsoners in our own beds, if I move they whinge, even a pillow fluffing causes a feline orchestra. We get up and feed them and they cry more, it's becoming really bad. We're considerate people and like our neighbours so any advice welcome, thanks.

They're in good health, wormed etc, they are bro and sis and are never apart, they have a "special" call for each other, they're both very well looked after as well as incredibly cute... and loud :(

How can I silence these cats?
>> Anonymous
You're not supposed to indulge them by responding to their calls at weird hours. It's telling them all that ruckus is working to make you guys appear to feed them.
>> Anonymous
Cats aren't stupid. If you ignore them long enough, they'll learn that they won't get food by making that noise at that time.

Okay.

Let's say you have a kid that screams and screams for you to buy him a new toy. You get sick of the screaming, and you buy it for him.

What did you just teach him? That by screaming, he gets toys.

When you morons are getting up in the middle of the night and feeding them, your cats are learning 'if I scream and make noise, they give me food'

THIS ISN'T TOUGH TO UNDERSTAND

In addition to what the two above me said, Burmese are indeed truly vocal cats. They are going to complain about everything and anything, especially if you think that they are complaining about food and give it to them each and every time they meow.

You should have checked up on the breed before you decided to get full-bred cats. You would have known.

Ignore, ignore, ignore. You've got to make the cats realize that they're your bitches, not the other way around. You do what you want when you want, never when they tell you to.

Alternatively, see if you can get one of those collars for dogs which squirt when they're barking. Not sure whether it works on cats or not, but it's worth a shot.
>> tigerfeather !CrwtTbFNxQ
Also, you should be feeding premium food TWICE daily, not once a day. How would you like it if you only got to eat once a day?

Bark collars work by reading vibrations in the vocal cords, so I don't see why they wouldn't work.

Spray them with water every time they meow.
Worked with my cat and she still loves attention.

Burmese are incredibly vocal cats who crave affection from their owners. The best way to get them to be quiet is to kill yourself.

Uhm, cats are not people. There is not some divine mandate that they need to eat twice a day. Stop impressing human wants onto a non-human animal.
>> Anonymous
I ignore my cat when she BAWWWWWWWWs in the hall at three in the morning, that's the only way to teach them. Burmese are loud BAAWWWW cats to begin with, though. You shouldn't have gotten them unless you wanted a loud cat.

It's easier for the cats to digest food when they have food in their system more than once a day. The cats will feel less hungry that way also. OP said he was having trouble with the cats regurgitating. Most cats will binge if only given one meal a day, and will likely vomit excess food back up after the binge. Feeding more than one meal a day will help fix that problem.

When I said "How would you like it if you only got to eat once a day?" I was referring to how you would actually feel (which is pretty shitty, I don't know if you know this or not) is you only ate one large meal a day.

There you go making the same mistake again. Just becasue you or I might feel shitty eating one meal a day, that doesn't mean that a cat will feel the same way.

In the wild felines tend to get a "kill" only once every several days, though some cats will nibble on carrion or insects here and there. Don't assume that it is bad for them to only eat once per day. It is quite natural for cats to binge eat every several days.

Obviously, captivity is not the same as "in the wild". But, it is far from cruel to feed your cat once a day.

hey, I only eat one meal a day, and a normal sized one at that and there's nothing shitty feeling about it.

Yes there is, you idiot.

Anyway, feed your cat twice a day, or the risk of fat and hungry cat will get bigger. When they're small, it's good to feed them thrice a day, but adults only need two. Stop trying to act like you know more than a vet, you fucking morons.

are you sure they aren't simply bored and requesting attention? it would be somewhat weird because they could play with each other, but still ... maybe eating is just a substitute they engage in because of lack of attention.

still, I vote with the 'ignore them' crowd. even if I have no idea how to actually do that.

Mine's not a burmese, but she can be a real bag o'meow sometimes.
Pour a few drops of water on their heads or squirt them with canned air (that stuff you use to dust your keyboard with) to quiet them down

I take it they're indoor-only?

they're begging for food cause its the only thing that interrupts the boring monotony of their bland indoor lives.

let them go outside

Fuck you.

Cats should stay inside.

Not everyone lives in an area where it's safe or wise to let their cats outside. At least, not without a harness and supervision.

no fuck YOU, cats are supposed to live outside
>> Anonymous
>>169117

Cats CAN live outside, as just about everyone knows, but the lifespan of a domestic cat is much, much shorter if it's an outdoor cat. Indoor cats are safer and live longer. Just give the cats toys, they'll be fine.

>>169240
it's only much much shorter if said domestic cat lives in a big city. Rural domestic cats have a much easier time living long happy lives, until a cougar eats them

get soundproof doors and put your cats on the other side of them

It has nothing to do with comparing them to humans, it's how a digestive system works. Wild cats DO only get a kill every once in a while, but that doesn't mean it's fine for domesticated cats. In case you didn't notice, wild animals don't exactly live up to the same standard of living as our pets do. It's better for most animals to eat a few times per day rather than one large meal. Dogs, for instance, will vomit up bile if they aren't being fed enough times per day.

>>169117

lol, yeah, a domesticated animal. Why are we so cruel then to other animals? We should let our dogs and birds and gerbils RUN FREEEEE~! We are so mean keeping them safe and away from predators and bitchy humans! Yes, I'm sure they hate us for it. ;(

Why is it you outdoor cat faggots only insist on letting cats out? What the fuck is so 'primal' about cats that we MUST let them out as opposed to every other domesticated animal that we don't let out? OMG CATS ARE FREE SPIRITS DO NOT HINDER THEM~ THEY MUST WANDER AND BE FREE~

Shut the fuck up. They're domesticated animals. End of story.

I let both my dog and my cats out into the backyard. If the cats manage to get out of the backyard by climbing/jumping, then they're free to do it.

LOL STATISTICAL AVERAGES LOL

Either that, or indoor cats regularly live longer than 25 years.

>>It has nothing to do with comparing them to humans, it's how a digestive system works.

Again with the generalizations!

All animal digestive systems are not the same. Are you telling me that a human's digestive system is the same as that of a cow? Nope, we humans aren't ruminants and we don't have a rumen, retiuclum, or omasum. How about a chicken? Nope, no gizzards for us humans. A snake? No, we need to eat more than once a month.

Cats are obligate carnivores. As such their digestive tract is suited to eating fairly infrequent meals of meat.

I'm not telling you to feed your cat once a week. But, anyone who insists that cats must be fed twice a day clearly has little understanding of feline biology, or they are simply being obstinate. Or both.

Domestic breed digestive tract != wild breed digestive tract.

As you said, they are not the same. Once a day isn't working with these cats.
>> Anonymous
ok, enough you idiots, put a big ass bowl of dry cat food out and leave it out, 24/7. The cats will eat as much as they want and shut the fuck up.
>> Anonymous
>>169425

Are you sure it is not working? Or are the cats just whining?

Biology aside, if your cat is USED to two meals a day and you suddenly cut him off to 1 meal a day, then you can expect some "complaining" from the cat. But that isn't the cat starving. That's an issue of psycological condition.

If I take the doritos and sodas away from my fat-ass roomate, he bitches mightily. But does that mean that him eating a whole bag of doritos and a 6-pack of Dr. Pepper every day while playing Counterstrike is healthier for him?

I just leave a bowl out 24/7. My 15 year old cat is 7lb. The kitten I currently am raising is free feeding too.

Pic related. That is them.
>> Homelss with a dog whiteirishtiger
Only feed dry twice a day.. routinely and that's it. no 'treating' or any of that. if you feed them to try and shut them up.. you are enabling.. just as if it was a whiny kid.
do these cats get out at all? what do they have to do all day? how about a trip to the Petsmart or Petco for 2hrs? how about a harness for each and to anywhere kids/adults would like to play with them? the elderly love cats and small dogs.. brighten their day once a week and wear down your cats at the same time!

your cats have ear mites? looks like it in the ear of the one cat ... 0.o
