Zoantropos Tiranidos Mortis
This spider was on my garage. I've never seen one like it before. Can anyone identify? Google for "kansas spiders" etc only comes up with junk like 100% MIRACLE CURE BROWN RECLUSE BITE

Commonly called a banana spider, but it could be one of a number of orb weavers, all of which are harmless. It might hurt when it bites you, but that's because it's mouth is fucking huge. How can you live in the south and never see one of these things?

TX here.

That is what we call a "garden spider" or "zipper spider". They are very common.

The "Banana spider" is of similar size, but its abomen is longer, has a more cylindrical shape, and is almost entirely yellow except for a very faint pattern.

Note that the "garden spider" has a yellow-and-black striped or spotted abdomen.

Op's spider is sometimes called a Zipper Spider becasue many times they will make a zig-zag of very thick webbing right in the center of the main web, right where they usually sit and wait for prey. The zig-zag looks like a zipper.

Texas has to fuck everything up.

In LA and WVa, the two states I have the most experience in, anything of that general size with any form of yellow is a bananna spider. Really, it doesn't matter what it's called locally, all that matters is it's harmless but cool looking.

Also the males are tiny and the females are xbox.

Here in TN, we call these suckers Writing Spiders, cause of the patterns in the web.
There is an old wive's tale about if you whisper someone's full name to the spider it will write their name in the web and they will die the next day.

I personally played with a few of them when they still made webs around the apartment, showing them off to little kids and letting them crawl all over my arms and such. Their legs tickle and they are very docile, I didn't get bit at all.

That is a yellow butted brown recluse spider. Its bite can kill five rinosereces. but if you lick its underbelly you'll trip for days

"banana spider" is a colloquial term, and refers to several completely different spiders depending on where you are. It's like "garden spider" for any number of common orb weavers, or "daddy long legs," which I've seen people call a cellar spider, a harvestman, and even a cranefly.
This spider is properly called a Black and Yellow Argiope- Argiope aurantia. This poster>>144626is right.

What the heck is a rinoserece, and why would a spider want to kill five of them?

They are the horned relatives of Maceroni Haetus and Liekus. They are frequently slaughtered for their pelts and their horns are often powdered and used in Japanese folk medicines.

Yes, there's a cabal of these spiders that poach rhinos and sell their horns to the Japanese. I heard there's good money in it, ask your spider about it.

Why would I want to trip for days? I'm not naturally clumsy and I can't see how falling down for days on end would be any kind of fun.
