My cat pants like a dog. He's been to the vet, and is very healthy, but he pants alot. It's not really hot here, and the vet doesn't have an explaination. Anyone else have a cat that does that?

You cat's a pervret.

Animals have lots of fur which would make them hotter than you. And add that to the fact they are much smaller than you and I would be hot too. I've had cats that pant, don't freak out. It happens.

Your cat is a goth.

Do you live in a hot climate? That may have some effect.

My girlfriend has a dog who tries to purr. Grew up with a couple of cats, go figure.

My cat pants occasionally. She runs around like a spaz and then sits in front of me and pants. Pretty cute, really. She tried to purr at the same time once, and almost choked.

One of my cats wags her tail all dog style when shes in a good mood...

Cats have a special place on the roof of their mouths that can smell, and so sometimes when it looks like they're panting they're actually just smelling something.

Cats only usualy pant if 1: Really hot OR 2: under alot of stress.
My cat pants generaly when he is under stress, IE: long car rides.

panting is a sign of dehydration for a lot of animals. maybe that is the problem.

OP here, he pants mainly when he plays, and he gets alot of water, so its not dehydration. He also pants when he's relaxing on the porch,(his favorite place) so I don't think it's stress.

my cat did after it killed a chipmunk, i was assuming that it was from either sickness or excitment, but it didn't seem sick. so, maybe your cat is just over enthused all the time

not Op here, and this might be a stupid question, but could it be asthma, or some kind of allergy? I've heard that at least allegries can cause panting, but I could be wrong. Although, if it would actually be asthma, it probably would have some other effects too.

Sounds like he's just tired. I don't think I could survive just breathing through my nose after running around for even a few minutes.
