This plant grew on my mother's porch and we have no idea where it came from or what it is, but it's got nice flowers. Anyone know what this is?
It looks like one of the Australian native lilies, but I can't remember the name..
bumpi wanna know too
Your mystery plant is a Pincushion Lily, I believe. They die down in cold weather, then in Spring, the flower stem comes up out of the ground and blooms. I have one in my front yard here in Australia.
reminds me of rambutan!mmm yum!
>>287730Ever since coming back from Indonesia, I miss Rambutan so much.
I don't think they're lilies. Look more like thistles to me. We've got purple ones like those in OP's pic in our area.
That's the Starfire or Pincushion lily (http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&q=starfire+lily&btnG=Search+Images)They're really nice, I just bought a bulb. Be glad you have one.
They make a delicious tea. check out the numerous recipes at http://www.pincushion-teas.com, but I think their server is down today. You basically just add hot water to one or two blumes with some honey and lemon.
