How does /an/ feel about oscars?
>> Anonymous
They are the DEVIL!

They can be excellent fish when given the proper space, setup, maintenance, and diet. However, I don't think your average chain pet store should sell them. Too many morons who don't know anything about them buying them and tossing them into 10 gallon tanks.

I hear they're very smart fish.

On another note, there's a huge feril population of Oscars in Florida.

Um...aren't gators native to Florida?

Oscars are like dogs except they are in the water and do not bark or shit on my lawn. I had an oscar that would follow fingers touching the tank and would take treats from my hand (and bite anyone else that tried to give him food). They are very aggressive and very smart. They also grow fucking huge if you take good care of them.

Yes, but people buy and release alligators in places that aren't Florida. People are stupid and think "oh he'll be fine in the woods" when no, your domestic rabbit will not be fine. It will get eaten by something or starve to death. Your alligator won't survive the winter in Michigan no matter how many fish there are in the pond and your python will probably get hit by a car (or nailed to a pole for 8 hours).

Depending what kind of Oscar you get, what environment you keep it in, and what tankmates it's with. I've found in pairs with 1 Tiger and one Albino Tiger they are pretty sweet, but in my experience keeping them in odd numbers and with the same type can end in not too well...
