My pet cat just died today /an/. When I moved to another country, I found a girlfriend there. But when I told her I had a cat, she said that she was allergic to cats. So I gave my cat to one of my best friends for him to take care of her. I would once in a while drop by and visit my cat so that she wouldn't forget me. But now I was on a vacation somewhere far away and my friend just called and said my cat had died. At that moment I felt that a little bit of me had died. She was a stray cat, and her previous owner had disowned her. My family gave her a nice home where she could live. We were together for like over ten years, man. She would always crawl into my bed and purr silently. But I wasn't there when my cat died. But I think it was for the best, I would have burst out into tears if I had watched my cat just die and lie there emotionless.

A moment of silence for the best damn cat I have ever known.

Pic is not my cat, but it was that breed.

Should have told your girlfriend to go get some allergy pills!

Actually, I really don't care as long as your friend was a good owner. I hate people who get a girlfriend then get an animal and when they eventually break up the animal gets thrown aside but you don't sound like that kind of jackass.

Sorry for your loss, post more pics.

She died of old age. She had a heart attack and her kidneys refused to work. She might be dead, but I'm glad that she didn't get run over by a truck or anything, because my neighbour had at least three cats, all of them died. One died because a dog bit it in half. One got run over by a car. And one ran away and never returned. At least my cat had a somewhat peaceful death and not a gruesome one.

The pic isn't my cat, I searched for a cat that looked like mine, because I couldn't find any pics of my cat around. I only took like one or two pictures of her.

Fuck yeah gray tabbies.

Pics are overrated. I don't take pictures of my pets very often either, even though I love them very much.

It sounds like she passed quickly, and as you said, more peacefully than a lot of cats. My condolences.

I'm so sorry! I'm crying now, thinking about my kitty. It doesn't get any better, you just learn to think about them less.

Guys, give OP a break. It's not like he turned the cat into the shelter or threw her out. He found her a nice home. That's respectable. Not that I would've done that; I'd probably keep the cat because she was there first, but you know...he didn't completely give her up. He visited her.

Anyways, OP, I'm really sorry. Though it's good she had a peaceful death (comparatively.) I hope you feel better soon.

Sorry to hear about it. No matter how many times it happens, losing a pet doesn't hurt any less.
Especially when it's a cat, since cats > every other domesticated animal.

On a side note: my GF was allergic to cats too, slightly, not very strong allergy, allthough this one time her eye got all read and blown out like a baloon.. but when she moved in she adapted and became pretty much immune.

So sorry to hear about her. I had to put down a 12 year old kitty who had kidney failure, and although I thought I was a tough cookie and could handle anything, I burst into tears and cried my eyes out. The vets were VERY nice.

It is incredible how a small animal can get into your heart and tear you up when it goes. Everyone who's lost a pet knows just how you feel. Don't let anyone make you feel worse.

I'm sorry, losing pets is pretty hard. I had a cat back in 7th grade who got hit by a car. It was really hard on me because I had recently been distanced from my best friend and didn't really have anyone outside of family, so he was like a close friend to me. I've lost fairly close relatives that I didn't cry that much about. I'd hug you if I could OP. But at least she died of old age and from what it sounds like, in good care. I'm almost sure you saved her life and I'm sure you'll always have fond memories to stay with you.
