I don't know about Sweden, but it's complicated in the USA.
For example, they have hunting seasons when you can legally take deer, and those seasons (and what deer you can take) vary by weapon as well. For example, usually archery season opens earlier than rifle season, etc.
If you kill a deer out of season--however it happend--then you could be in big trouble. If the game warden decides it was an accident then you're A-OK. On the other hand, if he decides that you did it on purpose, then you're in deep shite.
Burying the body is often the safest way out of that predicament.
A related issue is what happens with animals that are being a nuisance? For example, what happens if you have a vegetable garden and the deer are constantly eating your crops? Or if you keep poultry that are being eaten by Foxes?
Legally, you have to file paperwork, wait for a Dept. Of Fish & Wildlife biologist to come and study the situation, and then they might issue you a permit to trap and relocate the animal. WTF? Therefore most people subscribe to the "Three S" rule: Shoot, Shovel, and Shut Up. Most wardens are OK with that so long as you don't make a trophy out of the nuisance animal.
