I tried to save a mouse caught in a glue trap at my grandfather's place when I was a little kid. I remember getting it off, but only about half its skin, and it making a tiny scream before it died.
On a semi-related note, I keep a couple semi-large carnivorous reptiles and a few years back my regular pet store, which used to gas its pre-killed feeders, was sold to someone else. The new owner apparently didn't hear I asked for pre-killed mice and handed me a double paper bag containing a dozen live mice... I sent him back and 5 minutes later he comes back with the same double bag, crumpled, with blood seeping through. I take it and leave.
Halfway home I hear a faint scratching, peer inside, and out jumps this angry-looking hunchbacked motherfucker covered in blood, with drying blood coming from his nostrils and ears and a raw socket where his left eye used to be.
I decided to keep him as a pet out of respect for his badassery but never managed to get him to wear the eyepatch I made for him. He only lasted about 3 months, though. He pushed the screen off the tank I was keeping him in and I found him a day later sitting on a shelf staring me in the face with his one good eye, but he fell ill and died the day after. I think he ate something toxic.
