The atchafalaya bayou one of the greatest unknown wonders of the united states that no one knows about. It's even a mystery to people who live in louisiana. I live right on the edge of it. I relative of ours recently did a short documentary about it.

The atchafalaya was this nations last great frontier. Early acadians settled the inside. My grandma was one of those who lived inside the bayou. No utilities of anykind. You hunted, fished, and planted if you wanted to survive. No roads know the atchafalaya if you wanted to get anywhere you had to have a boat.

Heya fellow Lousianianininananan

Know any spots reachable by car/hike to commit suicide out there? I mean, somewhere you can go and be alone for a few hours, so that the body isn't immediately found by a toddler? Would rather not rent/buy a boat for it, since it's wasting resources.

Also, the bayou is better than the everglades. Florida gets tourists and drained, while we just lose land from drainage and hurricanes. Wasn't there a dude recently who jumped off the interstate to avoid cops? I forget if he was found alive or not.

What? You aren't the fucker that keeps sending me emails like "you are the most awesome faggot since freddie mercury", are you? I'm not going anywhere, it's just a good idea to have a backup plan.

On topic: Swamp!

Although driving across the Atchafalaya Swamp Freeway is depressing for some people, I love it. Despite the mosquitos, I love the swamp.
BTW, we're losing a most of our land to coastal erosion, and shipping canals cut through the wetlands, not hurricanes.

Why are there so many people from here on this board?

This. Our cities smell like pee.

I meant the hurricane bit as in, we lose a chunk each time. Erosion is constant, and I'm pretty sure everywhere with coastal swamps have problems with it.

Wow, I'm from Louisiana too...weird. I live in Brusly. Bitter Anon, you can always go to Bayou Paul Road (in St Gabriel) for peace while committing suicide. Once you reach the gravel road, there's really no houses, but plenty of bayou.

I live on the North shore, there were piney woods here before the hurricane knocked down all the pine trees. Now there's desolation where the lumber company clear cut and replanted everything. Apparently there were so many dead trees that pine beetles posed a serious risk to everything if they didn't cut them.

Don't do it! Think of the kittens!

How to commit suicide in southern Louisiana :

- Choose a nice, secluded spot in the Atchafalaya
- Drive there one lonely night
- Stop for gas on the way
- Buy gas-station boudin
- Eat gas-station boudin
- Suddenly feel suffused with happiness, love for all people
- Drive home on a boudin high, hug a kitten

What he really means is that gas station boudin will make you shit your guts out and die.

I noticed that he comes here more than any other state.

Christ it's just a backup plan! If my organs start to fail, nuclear lollercaust, they find the bodies in my yard, etc. A man has to have an exit strategy.

That would be a horrible way to go. My car would be ruined. But apparently I would be really happy before my innards exploded. Also, the most awesome boudin in BR comes from a truck stop. They also make a horrible/awesome hogs'head cheese.
