Battletoads.

No, in all seriousness, it's a giant marine isopod. A gigantic, deep-see version of those little bugs that roll up into armored balls when you touch them. Here's another pic. Man, this question gets asked like every other day, somebody should fucking sticky the answer or soemthing.

Nay. They're crustaceans, and as such,are more related to crabs and lobsters than horseshoe crabs. Horeshoe crabs are more related to spiders and scorpions.

"Giant Isopod: It's What's for Dinner."
"Giant Isopod: The Other Other OTHER White Meat."

Actually, not likely to be eaten (by people) much because there aren't that many catches. I imagine they'd taste something like crab or lobster, in which case, I'm not missing anything. (I don't care for crab, lobster, and any kind of shellfish except for scallop. Only time I'll eat crab is in a California Roll.)
They pop up on /an/ because they are awesome. Like pillbugs, but HUEG. So more awesome than awesome pillbugs ,which I used to raise. I kept them a tupperware box with damp paper towel for moisture, carrot shavings and peel for food, and a rock for shelter. Later, I taped several plastic cups to the inside of a shoebox, each cup stocked with the aforementioned things, and raised them almost in their own pens. I once had a pregnant female pillbug, and she gave birth to her babies. They were tiny and off-white. At that point, I released them into the backyard. Ah, childhood...
And finally...

JESUS CHRIST, IT'S A GIANT ISOPOD, GET IN THE SUBMERSIBLE! (|||){
