Well we give our cats some steak/bacon/pork chops/ chicken in VERY small pieces as treats every once and awhile and they haven't had any issues with it.

chickpeas, whole grain rice, and meat. No one food is good enough to live off of, and cats should not eat foods prepared for people.

In my experience, many cats turn down a large number of human foods. Since a healthy human diet requires variety this can limit your cat's intake of necessary nutrients. On top of this, the average human tendency to give the "tasty bits" (ie fat and skin) to the animals makes it even worse. I say if you want to give it a few scraps on *occasion* go for it, but give it regular cat food for its main diet.

Cats love to drink chick pea water.

They like some of the weirdest things. My cat will wolf down black olives like there's no tomorrow but she won't touch tuna fish.

no onions. they are really bad for cats and dogs

Cats have always survived off of very meager portions of food. Rats, rabbits, birds, lizards, very small animals.
None of those gives a cat everything it needs in it's diet, but its enough to survive day to day.
In the present, cats can live up to 20 if they're taken care of and fed the proper diet.
In the past, when cats were wild, or even today with feral cats, they are lucky to see 7 years, because they lack the nutrients that's in catfood.
Ontop of that, poor grooming cuts down the life span too.
So do parasites, that we humans get rid of for them.

So, unless OP has the natural diet of a cat laying around the house, I'd say the only food to ever feed a pet cat is meat (cooked, as little grease as possible), eggs(cooked as well), and rice.
If OP has lamb, that would be the best thing to feed the cat.

My cat really loves yogurt and the leftover sauce from microwave ravioli.

The most I've ever given any of my cats is a little bit of meat (mostly chicken). However, there are two exceptions to this. One of our more persistant cats will occasionally bug me whenever we have salad or something else with a lot of vegetables, which will result in him getting a small piece of lettuce. I have one cat that LURVES normal tortilla chips. I swear, she's able to decpiher the distinct sound of a tortilla chip bag opening from potato chips. So, question for you /an/.. Is half or quarter of a tortilla chip alright for a cat?

Taurine is a nonessential amino acid, which means that it is manufactured from other amino acids in the liver. Taurine is found mostly in meat and fish. Good sources of taurine include brewer's yeast, eggs and other dairy products, fish and red meat.
