You see a dog. Wounded in the road.
It's not your dog. It might not be lethally wounded, it just looks like his leg is broken.
You cannot see cars coming in any direction, but your viion range is only of about 100 meters in both directions.
What do you do, /an/?

Grab it by its tail and drag it out of my lane. I really don't want to clean my car.

the world is a sad place and the sooner you accept that the happier you will be :)

Two answers:

One is to not save it. The other is to save it.

If it might be alive and saving it does not put you at any risk for injury or death, then why not save it? It doesn't make much sense not to. Of course it's not your responsibility, but if it can't hurt to do it, then I see no reason not to. I have a dog that got precariously close to dying when she developed a pancreatic infection. We brought her to an animal hospital and the veterinarians saved and nursed her back to health. Now she's alive and well and my family and I are quite happy about it. Kind of a tangent there, but I still don't really see any reason not to save the animal.

unzip my fly and piss on the pathetic mut then run back to my car before someone tries to knock me out.

Had this happen before.

Grabbed it and put it in the car. 50 yards later its owner came running up and took it.

>lethally wounded

I think you mean "mortally wounded".

Pull over and put him in the car, take him home. See what I can do for him there, then take him to the vet. I'd rather save the dog's life (or at least try to) and spend money on it than have the fact that I COULD have done something but didn't be floating on my conscience forever.

That being said, I'll be honest. I would probably become attached to the dog and want to adopt him if he didn't have an owner. This puts more responsibility on me of course, but hey, it's what I'd do.

I would go see if it's ok. Anyone that wouldn't is an asshole.

That's not a fucking Peke. Unless it was bred around a nuclear plant that made it 5 times bigger than a normal Peke.

This story is kind of related, it happened about a year ago. I was driving home from work a little after 10pm on a dark road that is notorious for being windy. I took a curve and right in the middle of it a dog ran in front of my car. I slammed the brakes but hit him, I would say I was going about 20mph. He skidded about 10 feet from my car. I pulled over and got out and just than saw this girl screaming and running in my direction. My heart sank, losing your grip on a dog and having it run away is scary thing for an owner i know it well. I ran over to the dog and it was laying there blinking and I actually didnt think he has hurt until he tried to stand up and I saw his leg was in ruins. She was crying, i was crying, she said she didnt have a car and I told her get in mine and we drove to an emergency clinic. We were there til the early morning, but the wound looked alot worse than it was, and the dog was extremely lucky to walk away with superficial wounds. Today the dog is doing well, I actually ended up dating the girl, how bizarre is that. Anyways, how can you not have compassion for an animal if you see it in pain?

I saw my dog get hit by a speeding car.

The driver didn't even stop.

The car was easily going 75+km, and my house is located in a fucking 40km school zone.

I stood there in disbelief, then I raged, and then I cried.

Moral of the story: Don't be a fucking douchebag, stop the god damn car.

Samefag.

The thing that made me rage was the fact that he didn't stop. He didn't even slow down. If he had stopped and gotten out of the car it would have showed that he at least cared a little bit about killing my best friend. I'd still be pissed, but I wouldn't have abused or threatened him. It was an accident after all.

I'd feel too guilty not to stop.

maybe he thought he hit a small child, and didn't want to get arrested.

Also, I would've stopped because I thought that dog fucked up my car. I would've examined my car, and if it was fine, i would've continued with my life.

How hard would you have to hit a dog to kill it?
Not run over it, just hit it.

I would stop and see what I could do to help it.. Mainly because if someone ran over my animal or just passed by it when it was injured I'd be heartbroken.

Last year I was a routine jogger after dark and found a cat dead in the street, I went door to door to find it's owner. A part of me just wanted to say 'meh' and run in the opposite direction.. But again, if it had been my cat, I'd have been thankful for the courtesy.

Same fucking shit happened to me when I was young.
Best part was? It was my dad who did it. I'm glad he's dead.

this happened to my best friends dog, only they were walking in her yard out in BFE, the car was going at least 70 down a road that should be marked 40 but doesn't have a posted sign. they kept going. there were tire tracks IN THEIR YARD. dog died in her arms before i could get to them to take them to the er. i was the one who got her the dog for her and my god daughter. thank god the baby wasn't home when it happened.
now lays in peace under a persimmon tree, RIP mishka (meesh-ka)

i've (almost) hit a cat once. driving on a dark curvy road late at night. darted out in front of me, i slammed on my brakes but couldn't stop fast enough, felt my car hit it, but when i flipped around no cat. drove a little bit back closer to where i originally saw the cat, it darted back across the road and into some bushes. the road is along a train yard, was driving at like midnight in the middle of winter, i was afraid to get out of my car and look in some dark bushes for the cat, so i turned back around and went to wherever i was going. i still feel bad about it to this day.
