Hey /an/

I've been having problems with my 16 year old(probably younger, just a guess.) Shiba Inu. He constantly wants to go outside-- not to pee or anything, mind you, he just lays out there. It's gotten to a point where he spends most of the day outside even if it's pouring rain/thundering.

If I don't let him outside, he freaking comes up to you and STTTAAARREEESSS at you while panting like it's fucking 90 degrees outside or something. Or else he tries to jump up on you to get your attention.

One of my family members thinks he's staying outside because of the noise our broken fire alarm is making. No, it's not that "BEEPBEEPBEEP" roaring noise, it's just an occasional "BEEP". My younger dog doesn't seem to mind it at all.

TLDR: My dog constantly wants to go outside, but not to go to the bathroom. Is he just getting senile/retarded or is this an actual problem?

So what's the problem? Let him outside if that's what he wants. iirc shibas are known to be fairly independent.

Perhaps you could install a doggie door for him?

/an/ newfag here.. but anyway

My dog had the same problem.. i have tought him not to come up the second lot of stairs in my house, but one morning, around 2am i woke up to huge panting in my face.. i go downstairs, open a door to outside thinking my dog had an enraged urge to urinate.. anyway i stuble up to bed leaving the door open.. Note: i heard a random beep a few times in the whole 10 mins i was down there, too sleepy to work out what it was.. later that morning. about 8:00am, i go downstairs, and my dog isnt in the house, go outside and hes hiding there.. fair enough i find out its the low battery warning on my fire alarm and i change it.. ironically next morning, the other fire alarm goes off for low battery, same stuff happens.. so yeah i guess the fire alarm scares them..

Tl:dr Dogs get scared by low battery fire alarm noise and want to go outside..

Pic somewhat related, its my other dog XD

if your dog is 16 your problem will go away by itself pretty soon. also, let fucking dog sit outside if he wants wtf

I LOL'd so hard.

If you had extremely good hearing particularly in the high pitches, you'd want to get away from a malfunctioning fire alarm too.

Kinda sounds like he's getting ready to die.

It's the fire alarm. Dogs have a much better sense of hearing than us, and I wouldn't be surprised if the damned thing was making a constant whine to his ears.

He's probably getting old and cantankerous too.

Hey, OP, here's a thought; put fresh batteries in the smoke detector.

Seconded. Seriously, who'd be stupid enough to not put in new batteries?

I know, right? And it's not just a matter of making the dog more comfortable, but what if there's a real emergency? Smoke detectors aren't decoration.
