Calling all mousefags! Anonymous
rodentfag here.
i just got a free mouse from the pet store i work at. we get sick animals for free if we want them, and my little guy has a small respiratory problem. he only started showing signs of it a few days ago, and he seems like a healthy little mouse except for the fact that he's a little congested. also, it's not consistant; i'll hear him breathing one minute, and the next minute he'll be completely fine. i have him on carefresh ultra right now, and while he was in the sick room he was on paper shreddings. does anyone think that his infection will clear up on it's own, or will i have to bring him to the vet? right now he's breathing fine and running around in his cage. what a cutie. :3

Because vet visits are so expensive and often worthless, I'd say just keep an eye on him for a little while. If it gets to be serious, he'll show signs of it.

OP here.

I can't stand mousefags more than I can't stand catfags.

Step on the worthless little shitstain and get yourself a rat or something worthwhile.

He has a respiratory infection. It's very unlikely to get better on its own. A simple course of common antibiotics will clear it up. Doxycycline + subcutaneous fluids + a round of Baytril to take home is the course; any vet can do it.

LOL @ 200 bux for a 2 buck mouse.

If you're not prepared to care for a pet, you shouldn't have it.

i have two rats already, and they're my babies. have a little respect for other animals, please.

i have 5 pets already and i care for them just fine.

okay. i can get some baytril from my vet. should only cost me $5 for a vile of that shit. :3

I agree with the Baytril, it's very commonly prescribed. And I'd definitely take him to the vet since respiratory infections in mice are pretty nasty and commonly fatal.

Good luck with your little one. Is it really a boy? If so, him being alone is good. But if not, a girl will need friends!

Btw, mousefag haters, wtf are you doing on /an/ if you're not going to have respect for a fellow intelligent socially oriented mammal, who is just as equally deserving of care as a rat, gerbil, rabbit, guinea pig, etc.

Eat a dick.

You seem to know what you're doing, so you might already know this, but keep those rats away from the mouse. Just smelling the rats is stressful for mice, as they're a natural predator. And if the rats have access to the mouse, they will KILL IT AND EAT ITS BRAIN.

Really.
Be careful.
Also the rats might catch whatever the mouse has, which would suck.

/b/ was boring. They'll get bored of being on /an/ eventually too.

Feed him peanut butter and then grind up a bit of a vitamin pill into the peanut butter.

If you're going to use peanut butter, make sure to thin it with a bit of water/milk first because it can be very tacky and mice can choke on it.

Also, giving medicine via food is not really recommended as you can't guarantee they'll eat all of it at the right time, or if the meds get distributed in it evenly, etc. It's just best to give baytril right down their wee lil' throats.

Baytril's an orally administered liquid. Best to put it into as much water as he'll drink in a week and leave him to it. Assuming he's quarantined, of course.

That's a really bad idea. I don't think anyone knowledgeable or a vet would give that advice. He could very well OD or not get enough and thus the medicine wouldn't be effective.

OP here.
hay, um guys. i know all dis shit about not putting my rats anywhere near the little guy, and that boy mice must be lone mice, unfortunately. i always research as much as i can before i get any pets. all i needed to know is if he'll need medication. he seems to be getting better on his own though, so i'll leave him for another few days and if the progress plateaus, i'll bring him to the vet. thanks for all your other help, though. i appreciate the concern. :3

Try echinacea goldseal, can't hurt.
