Okay, so I have had this adorable green spotted pufferfish for about 7 years now. It is remarkably hardy, but stopped eating small snails about a year or two ago (which are hard enough to find in pet stores). My poor puffers' beak has become dangerously overgrown since then. It seems to have a single vertical "tooth" or beak within it's tiny lips that is shaped like V. The bottom part of it is sticking in to his lip already.I am squeamish, but prepared to do some "small puffer dentistry". Upon research I've found this is quite common and some even call it required maintenence.Upon quering teh internets, I've found several how-to sites that seem somewhat helpful. So I've purchased a cuticle trimmer, but have been unable to find pure clove oil to use as an anesthetic.I've tried pet, food, nutrient, and other stores to no avail. There are some other medicines used to numb pain in a humans' mouth that may work, but I am unsure as to which ones would be safe to use. Please skim through the sites before replying. Tanks. Here are the sites I am using as a reference:http://www.wetwebmedia.com/FWSubWebIndex/smpufferdentistry.htmhttp://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_2/cav2i1/puffer_dentistry/puffer2.htmComment too long. OP here, this is the image of the required 'tools'. I need to know what is suitable to use in replacement of the obscure toothache medicine.
benzocaine doesn't work on fish?
this is a clearly insane idea
I don't know if I should be laughing or crying right now.Your poor puffer! I wish you luck.I'd say ask a vet, but um, most of them don't exactly specialize in fish. Lolz.
Who in their right goddamn mind would handle a puffer fish with their bare hands?!?
>>166297someone who really trusts their fish.Hey OP, try looking at perfume oil/wiccannut stores for pure clove oil.
Aren't there special kinds of rocks that you put in a tank for pufferfish to chew on? Sort of like a cuttlebone? Will they chew on a cuttlebone, even? That's something that goes in the ocean anyway, so shouldn't it be OK?
It is also used for anesthetizing and in higher doses euthanizing fish.
My pufferfish wont STOP eating...he is so fat, he looks like green-spotted lard.
