Had a corn snake until I went to uni, where I wasn't allowed any animals in halls and had to find her a new place. She (only found out when I took her to a guy who was organising re-homing) now lives at whipsnade zoo. Thing was about 5 feet, docile and stupid. With handling, yes, snakes get used to you. Always handle them, or they come to assosciate opening of the vivarium with feeding - bad idea. The worst a snake will do, really, is shit on you, so find out how long after it eats the food comes out the other end and avoid handling at that time. I kid you not, snake shit is projectile stink-goo. Not pleasant when fresh, and will pretty much ruin anything it is ejected onto. Snakes have such cute faces. The little mouth hole at the front <3
