Forgive my shitty picture -- this is my new puppy, Jackson. He's a pug/Shar Pei crossbreed, and he's about seven weeks old. He's about four pounds already, and very bitey.

Has anyone had experience with this particular cross-breed?

I got him from a breeder about two days ago, who said it was a fairly common cross in Canada... I only paid $116 for him.

Pretty sweet - but why did you go for this particular X-breed? I have a Chihuahua and large mutts. While my little Chi is cute and friendly, my larger dogs also protect my home.

Well, honestly, my mother had been wanting a bulldog, but those are retardedly expensive, so we were saving up for one. We saw Jackson when we were wandering around at a flea market-type setting, along with three of his sisters, and my mother fell in love with his little semi-smushed face, so I talked the breeder down from $200 to the $116 I had in my pocket.

We have two Cocker Spaniels and a miniature long-haired Dachshund -- the Dachshund is the one that sleeps with me, and the Cockers are brats that have their own dog beds. My dad works nights, so we got the new dog to protect and comfort my mom at night.

Totally not bumping with more illegal cuteness.

I see. Shar-Peis are good (and good-sized) and loyal guard dogs, I don't know much about pugs though, heh - they have a lovely temperament. If there is trouble, I'm sure he will protect your mum as much as he can, though.
My mother bought a Miniature Fox Terrier at the flea market and he's the fiercest dog I've known. He's about half the size of my Chi, though, so a robber would only laugh.

Well, that's good to hear. Jack's already pretty fiercely aggressive for his size -- he can fend off my dog Rembrandt (the miniature Dachshund in the tiny attached pic) already, and is capable of drawing blood with his little bitey mouth.

Remmy isn't terribly aggressive though -- we apparently got him in an AWFUL shape about six months ago. He had an intestinal infection, horrible earmites, and worms so bad it took three worm treatments to get him dewormed. We paid $40 for him, but have ended up dishing out the full price for vet treatments.

He's a horny little freak, though; it hasn't damaged his reproductive urges.

Ha. Rembrandt is a good name. Such a cute fellow. I think the reproductive urges are the last things to disappear on the little breeds though, if my Chihuahua is anything to go by.
No big deal, but I forgot to mention; you might want to keep an eye on his "biteyness."

Also, I didn't mean to give the impression that fierceness is a good thing. Your mother’s dog will most likely have what it takes to be an effective protection if the time to defend your mother ever arises, but should be encouraged to remain otherwise calm.
It’s nice you let your Dachshund sleep so close to you. My Chi would sleep on my ear if he could, so I have to keep my distance at night.

Congrats for paying over $100 for a mutt!

Thanks for the advice! He only nips if you get him all ruffled up playing, and then he stops quickly.
And yeah, Remmy tends to be most comfortable curled up against the small of my back, under my quilt. And he sleeps through the night for the most part. Both he and the new puppy are pad-trained at night but go outside during the day, so I count myself lucky.

Thank YOU! He came with his puppy shots, a collar, and a few toys, so we considered him a bargain for a well-bred, well-taken-care-of pup, even if he isn't purebred.

Gotta go with the tripfag on this. Enjoy your mutt. Alone.

Do you have papers for his puppy shots?

I thought those two dots in OP's pic are its eyes, and looked like some kind of mutated fetus for a moment.

I was like wtf am I lookin at

$116 is still a bargain, actually. Shots, or no shots. I'm not sure that most pups at the flea-market are well-bred though, but he sure looks strong and healthy.

>>196636
That doesn't even make sense.

>>196637
Yep. They gave us the vet record and pointed out the veterinarian that had been seeing his mother and father. The vet record even came with the STICKERS from the vials of... uh, shot stuff. Yeah.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've seen plenty of flea-market pups that just broke my heart with how sickly they were. They had the mother and father out there, too, and they seemed bright-eyed and healthy (even if it was hysterical to imagine that tiny pug mounting up). So I thought it was a pretty reasonable price for that kind of security.

Lawl! Sorry. That was the picture I took of him on my mom's quilt when we first brought him home. The second one was taken when he finally woke up from the heat-lamp stupor he was in from the breeders' setup.
