buy them @ a pet store, and breed them so you can sell them as snake food.

if you do it right you could make tons of money

Rats are social creatures, get two of the same sex and try to get them while they're very young. Rats make great pets!

Do not use cedar or pine bedding for them. Try to use aspen or something like "Yesterdays News". ^.^

I've also had better experiences with female rats. They tend to be more social, in my experience. Rats make great pets!

I've had the opposite experience. Get a male rat. They're more sociable toward humans (not really other rats) and they seem have a much less chance of getting tumors.

use paper as bedding cedar makes them itch. They are very smart and need plenty of space but they are nesters so if they get out of the cage they will likely come right back.

Forget anything you've read about hamsters or mice, and think of them as little dog/raccoon things.

If your rat starts oozing red gunk from its eyes and nose, its not blood, its porphyrin. Small amounts are nothing to worry about because this is natural waste from a gland behind the eye, its triggered by light - but a lot of oozing is caused by stress, and along with sneezing, means your rat needs a trip to the vet.

I kept rats and mice for a while. Learned a lot. Don't use cedar bedding as they are allergic and will get cancer (seriously). Don't feed them anything with high citrus like oranges, they can't handle it. Feed them a mix of a high protein nut diet like they have for hamsters, and mix in cheerios and diced strawberries, carrots, celery etc. The nuts are required and the fruit/veggies are treats. Also, fill the food bowl whenever it is empty, but don't refill it if it's just been picked clean of all the tasty stuff. It's a combination food and they need to eat all of it to get the right balance. Play with they regularly. Feed them treats like cheerioes when they come to the side of the cage. Use a ten gallen aquarium with on of those wire two story topper things. They love the multi levels. Make fabric hammocks out of felt, they will love you forever. Any questions, seriously, email me at uneekefilms@yahoo.com

oh no! I was sharing my bagel with my rats and one of them ate almost all of it. Not all the bagel but almost all the part I gave them. Now the other one is jumping around begging me for more but I already ate it all. :( Should I make another? It was an everything bagel with cream cheese. They're the ratties' favorite. Poor baby.
