first two pics are male Poecilotheria ornata (one of my favorites), second is a female Phidippus octopunctatus, don't know what species anon posted, one after that is a female Phidippus johnsoni, and this one is mature male Psalmopoeus cambridgei. (my favorite of all) sadly, he got eated when he was paired up with a friends female. :(

if they land on their abdomen they could. more of a rupture than a pop. more of a problem with heavier terrestrial species..some of the lighter built arboreals can jump and land ok.

if you were handling on and it moved suddenly and you flinched and flung it, chances are, that spider is dead.

Ah, the Chilean Rose hair. A beautiful Tarantula.
I have one of my own. She's been showing signs of molt for months, but hasn't yet, so I'm just waiting for it.
>> Anonymous
Despite their apperance, the bite from a tarantula is generally about as bad as a wasp sting.

The more you know.
>> Anonymous
>>179742
You know, that's still probably bad enough that I'd decide to kill it for biting me. Ahh, relative omnipotence.
>> spiderman !!Q+JluTncCte
>>179739
how big is it? the larger the get, the longer it takes for them to get to their next molt..

the Grammostola genus isn't particularly known for fast rate of growth as it is.

kicks ass being around for the molt though..does make me a bit nervous at the same time. have only had a couple issues come up during a molt.

>>179742
yea, they aren't supposed to be too bad. fortunately i've not had the pleasure of being bit by a tarantula..have been bit by a centipede though! that shit hurt! some tarantulas are supposed to have more potent venom..like Poecilotheria, Heteroscodra maculata, and various other african and asian tarantulas. nothing deadly by any means..

then there's always the mechanical damage..i think i'd choose a wasp sting over two 1" long T. blondi fangs! :D
