What breed of cat is this?
No, it's not shooped. I've seen them before, I just can't remember what they're called.

It's a munchkin, they're kind of like a human midget. They don't suffer from RH, and are healthy. The breed was discovered living under a trailer in Louisiana, near Baton Rouge. It's my theory that they had adapted to the under-trailer environment.

Evolution does NOT happen that fast.

WRONG
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/180301.stm
This basically says that a rapid evolution has occurred with elephants, seeing as ones without tusks weren't killed, and seeing as it was a rare mutation that occurred quite rarely among elephants, and that it usually involved that male not getting to breed, it meant that the genetic "flaw" wouldn't continue to the next generation. However, their lack of tusks means that they're the only surviving males, so they get to mate, and pass the genes forward.

There you have it, evolution.

MUNCHKIN KITTY!
breed started by a mutant stray!
also they can't jump much which is good sometimes.

Actually, I heard that their cat agility and shit weren't really reduced, the only real difference that was made in the mutation is their legs, and nothing else.
>> Anonymous
That's a munchkin, and they're horribly unhealthy because of genetic mutation. :) Have fun paying ridiculous prices for cats that'll die within 2 years. ;)

You ALL need to go back to basic biology.

Both of those mutations are fairly simple, one-generation mutations. Technically, the elephant one could be considered artificial selection, but it's a good sign that elephants may be able to survive even with poachers.

Anyway, the cat: the munchkin mutation is a one-generation trait, in that the cat breed didn't gradually get shorter, and it's highly unlikely that it evolved for living under a trailer, considering that cats have no trouble doing that at their current height.

From what I've heard, these cats are pretty healthy.

you guys are arguing over nothing, evolution is about mutation natural and other selection and so on. the evolution that is popularly talked about is the grand scheme theory and not the tested and proven fact that animals can evolve and adapt relatively fast to changing environments if they have the capacity to.

Seconded. Cats are getting longer and their legs are getting shorter. It is proof that cats are simply the lesser evolved form of ferrets.

or maybe they're getting kitty down syndrome, from having sex with their brothers and sisters all the time.
