I'm going off to college in two months. My cat is very attached to me, and I'm about her only comfort in the house because our dog terrorizes her when she leaves my room. I'm afraid that she will get depressed when I leave. A few years ago I left for a month and when I returned, one of my formerly fat cats had lost a lot of weight, which I had attributed to depression, and I don't want that to happen again.
Is there anything I can do to help her cope when I leave?

I think your best chance is to make sure the other members of your household (ie, parents, etc.) know about your concern and promise to give her attention so she doesn't get lonely and to promise to keep the dog under control. If they refuse to do that, then find someone who will take good, responsbile care of your cat and ask them to either care for her or (in the case of maybe a close family friend?) to go to your house and give her lots of love.

Or sneak her to college. If she's used to living in one room and not venturing out, you might be able to manage it.

I know I had a similar problem with my cat. Formerly I was the only one who would let her sit on my lap and pet her because she would claw when happy (shit went right through denim lol) so no one else would touch her.
