Tips on helping a sick parakeet when there are no vets around?

Hopefully it's just sick and not old. She picks around in her food just to eat a couple seeds, leaves, and then comes back again. I've bought two other kinds of food but she does the same thing. She's also been stumbling around a lot when trying to climb, and sometimes when she goes down to eat/drink, she just sits on the floor of the cage and sleeps. She's also tried flying to her favorite mirror across the room a couple of times, but couldn't make it that high and ended up crashing into it and falling. The reason I'm thinking it's a sickness is because this all happened suddenly.

Anyway, I have a heater on near her cage. Anything else I can do?

does it`s nostrils looks dry, or the feathers on its head looks messed up, like plucked etc.

Do it got a swollen belly or feather loss in its belly?

Pretty runny. When she defecates, it comes out in two separate stools.

Nostrils & plumage look fine.

I've been trying hand-feeding her. She eats a few seeds and then moves into the palm of my hand tries to fall asleep.

Can't fly at all anymore. :(

At this rate, it doesn't look good. I'm just going to let it rest.

My bird started doing exactly the same 2 weeks before she died, strangely, the other bird started going all protective:)

Anyway, it might be something else, but if the bird is dieing of old age, leave it alone when it wants to be alone, make it comfortable for the bird, and the bird might want to find himself a good spot to die.

vets can't really fix birds. they are extremely delicate, and when they get sick, they die.

OP here, she died about 3 hours ago.

I didn't think it would happen so quickly like that, so I thought it was a sickness. I mean, two days ago she was fine, but in the moments before she passed on, she had trouble even walking. It must have been old age.

Thanks for the advice, though. I'm going to miss that motherfucker.

Could be sickness still.. It's common for birds to hide their sickness and when the first signs are to be seen, it can already be too late to do anything. It's important to observe their weight and droppings regularly to spot any abnormality or weightloss in time.

your bird reminds me of my bird:< my bird got scared by it's previous owner, but when it grew old, around a week before it died, it just walked over to anyone he could.

I seriously doubt this is attributed to old age. Why, I had a bird named Popi when I was 11, and I remember precisely when he got sick, he exhibited the exact same symptoms. He was also being picked at by the other birds, so my mom kept him in a cage with Nina, the only bird that didn't pick at him. I tried to raise money to get him to a vet, but it was no use, and after a few months, he died the day after my 12th birthday.
What's even stranger, though, is that not long after Popi's death, Nina suddenly fell ill with the same thing, and she was a young bird. She only lasted a few weeks before she joined Popi under the tree in our yard.
Therefore, this was communicable between birds, and therefore not caused by age, but by disease.

Happened to my birds too. Sigh. They had trouble breathing and our family was having horrible money issues at the time.

They were a pair, so Niles shortly followed Daphnie.

When something dies of 'old age' it doesn't suddenly come down with a shitload of symptoms, despite being fine previously, and die after a few days.

EXTREMELY weird that some of these symptoms occurred with my dog a few days prior to me posting this.
Had this weird sort of shake, couldn't keep any food down, was too late to take her to the vet. She had a torn ligament so we assumed it was because of pain. My mom ended up giving her morphine-- shes a nurse-- the dog ended up dying. Very rapid laboured breathing. The vet told us it was probably brain cancer or neurological issues. I'm assuming theres differences between birds and dogs, but there may be some similarities.

Also bumping into things/poor coordination is a sign of stroke or seizure.

Poster here; forgot about when there's neurological issues the brains way of dealing with it is shutting down. The sleeping would make sense.

Sorry for your loss. If the bird was 5 years or older, I'd definitely say it's an old age thing. Yeah, even though some birds live up to 12 or so, most die before age 7. At least he didn't die from a tumour; those are painful both for the bird and the owner.

Usually when a budgie is sleeping on the cage floor, it's just maybe a day or so from not waking up, usually less. Sickness can be told from observing the bird's crap, plumage and behaviour (the last one in particular). But really like someone else pointed out already, with budgies it's conceal conceal conceal croak really.
