I recommend avoiding a dog that has hair that grows long and close to the eyes. It's nasty. One, you have to continuously keep cutting the shit away from its eyes, they seem to have constant drainage, which ferments in the hair around the eyes and stinks like shit, and they damage their eyes from irritation. Non-shedding breeds, and long-haired flat faced breeds seem to have this problem. Yorkies, shih-tzus, pekes, maltese, poodles....meh. We've had all those breeds except the peke (which we've helped cut the fur around the eyes for a neighbor). Yeah you can take them to a groomer, except for the fact that the body hair is still relatively short by the time the eye hair gets into their eyes. For example, my mom's yorkie is due for another eye clearing cut now, his body hair has barely grown.
