I was thinking about getting some Flytraps, but I need to know how to care for them. Is there a helpful guide somewhere? Thanks.

Goggles, they do something.

Simple guide:

- distilled or rain water only
- don't trigger the traps manually
- if you want to feed it with insects, do it only rarely. Insects only, no meat, cheese or w/e.
- no fertilizers

The first one is the most important one. Lime (in normal tap water) kills it quite soon.

expect it to never catch anything

They are actually very boring and pointless. I used to have one that caught a small sowbug, and it ended up just eating it's way through the trap.

Don't forget wintering. For the darkest months of the year, the flytrap has to be stored in a cool dark place. The vegetable drawer of your fridge works fine. Since the plant can never be allowed to dry, it's best to seal it in a plastic bag during the wintering period to conserve moisture. After 3-4 months of wintering, take the flytrap out, remove dead leaves and it should start growing new traps (unless it's dead).

Also, as noted, it should never be allowed to dry, since it is a bog plant. Just keep some water on its tray at all times and it should be fine. It also needs a lot of light, so place it in the sunniest place in your home.

And one more thing. If your flytrap tries to flower, you can only allowe this to happen during the the spring or summer year. If it tries flowering in the autumn before wintering, this will usually drain its energy and kill it. Just clip the stem off if it tries to grow one. It will grow a new one next spring.

Enjoy your wire-gnawing poop machine. I've had rodents of all sizes, and none are as easy to take care of as venus flytraps.

Ditto. I used to have one. They are far less interesting than people think. Mine wouldn't do shit even if I tried to force feed it flies. And it died after a week or 2 of trying to care for it.

My suggestion for a more interesting plant.

rabbits if well trained can poop in one specific place, so stfu, as to wire-gnawing... well you just got to protect your wires

I have a flytrap with really small traps, and it catches very small fruit flies. It's also very unexciting, since it refuses to close its traps when it's "full", so I never actually see it do anything cool.
