>>243552 You want to hear some amazing genetics? Lets talk about Impressive. Impressive was a big, beautiful, perfect chestnut stallion. He was so wonderful, that at one point his owner was offered 300,000 usd to sell him, and refused, stating that he was priceless. He became the first World Champion Open Aged halter stallion. He sired over 2,000 horses and has over 100,000 descendants.
Many of his kids became champions. He had a great line of stunning horses. Except his kids and grandkids started getting sick. Over half of his descendants had Hyperkalemic Periodic Paralysis, aka HYPP. Their potassium levels were killing them. Still, no one wanted to blame Impressive because they weren't sure that the disease was solely from his line, and just about anyone who could afford his kids were incredibly wealthy and influentual. And you don't say "Hey stop breeding your priceless horse his kids die horrible deaths" to those kids of people. Now though, there is a genetic test to prove that a horse does not carry the gene despite being Impressive's descendant, and the price between twin foals can vary thousands of dollars if one of them lacks this gene.
Impressive could have, and still might, kill the quarterhorse breed. Seriously he deserves his name.
(I was going to write about Impressive in a "genetic dirty talk" style but creeped myself out so you get this instead)
