Petfinder ads? Anonymous
/an/, I'm a little distressed. I want to ask anyone whose ever used the petfinder ads to try and rehome a kitten.

I put up the two ad on our two kittens and got about ten different emails in response. Here's the one I'm distressed about. I'll put the responses in several posts below.

Here is the first:

"Good morning over there,
>
> We saw your pet advertised on a classified advert on pet finder and
> i want to adopt your pet at a companion for my 10yrs old son also to
> be friend of the family .please let me know is the pet is still
> available for adoption and the present health and its pictures if
> available for more satisfaction...

"Thanks for the payment information that you sent to me.I want you to consider your pet is coming to a loving home. The payment will be issue out in your name tomorrow via ups courier service and it will deliver to you before Thursday.I will send you the tracking number as soon as it ready.I have forward your name and address to the pet shipping company in other to contact you for the shipping arrangement please let me know when you hear from them.

I am not presently in the state now but i have instructed my trustee to issue the payment on my behalf and i will need your assistance here as i have instruct him to include the shipping fee in the payment that will be sent to you tomorrow because the pet shipping company only accept cash payment and you will help me send the shipping fee as soon as you receive my payment after you might have deduct the cost price of your pet...I am offering you $50 as compensation effort which you will deduct after receiving my payment.I will be more than glad if you could help me with this .How much does the pet cost?My son will be happy to see th pet at home soon.

Please feel free to email me back. How is the pet is doing fine?"

Kay..I didn't give him any payment information yet and I haven't even said he could have them since there were other takers....he still hasn't specified which one he's interested in...

So petfinder ads. Anyone used them for this? Anyone gotten responses like this? Should I just delete this as spam and throw in the towel on this method. Maybe it's better to go back to the old fashioned way of asking around work and putting up flyers?

I've never used petfinder or even needed to find a home for an animal, but I would definably just delete that e-mail and forget about it. The wording alone gives me a headache.

Personally I would stick to the old-fashioned way of asking around and putting up flyers. That way you can meet the people in person and they're local, not some whackjob over the internet who could lie out their ass and get away with it.

I havent tried petfinder before, But you're right, this is just spam, and slightly disturbing. Cuz well.. that sounds like one of those pet things where they wanna raise them in large numbers for some twisted reason. Just put it down as Spam, but if you can, try and let someone who might be able to do anything know about this. Then go back to the flyers thing
Good luck mate

Thanks so much for the advice you guys. I will just go ahead and delete it because my 'internet alarms' are going off and I can't stand to think of putting my precious kitties in any danger.

I only resorted to this site because it's near impossible finding anywhere for them around here. Cats are hard to rehome. I should've known it was a bad idea though..

That's pretty creepy. Sounds like some dude that wants to eat your poor kitties.

Sounds like spam considering they never say "kitten" or "cat" but just "pet" meaning it's a generic letter that could apply to horses, dogs, cats, birds, whatever.

Just delete the email. I'm sure there are actual, sane, English-speaking folks who would be happy to adopt the cat.

I put up an ad on there saying I'd found a lost dog, and I got 5 or 6 emails like that. I did a Google search on the email addresses they came from, and found a website that lists all the emails from these people and all the different addresses they use. It's a money scam and from what I can tell, they send them to just about anyone that posts on Petfinder. Just delete it.

No, it's not to eat the kitties.... it's a shipping scam. They send you a check and then you transfer money back to them and then the check bounces and you're out lots of money.

Thank you. I should probably post mine up. If this is the case then I've gotten quite a few of these scam e-mails.

Urgh...maybe I'll get someone valid eventually. Til then, back to the flyers.

yep, these people are right. i've heard of things like this in room mate scams "my cousin will be visiting your crappy town soon from africa. and he needs a place to stay, can i western union the money to you for the deposit?" after they send u the money, "omg he was hurt, can't make it. send my monies back" by the time it all goes through the money they sent you was bad and you're out that amount.

good catch OP, so many people are caught by this scam it's scary.
