actually chocolate is non-toxic to rats, just fattening, like for us. A little bit is good if they're having trouble breathing. Also, it's only males that can't have oranges, and it's only the oils in the peel that they have to avoid (bad for the prostate). Just avoid most spices (like coriander), weird herbs (even cilantro), and moldy/blu cheese (HIGHLY toxic). Most other things won't kill them...

Oranges can kill a rat?

Shit, nobody ever told me that. I used to have a rat that I fed clementine slices once in a while. That may be how he died.

Oranges and other citruses have just too much vitamin C. It's not good for your rat but it's still not a poison. You should avoid them and also tomatos. Don't give them too much milk, meet and
dairy products 'cause protein is bad for their skin. It's good just for small rats and pregnant females.

Actually, no..........
It's the d-limonene that's in citrus fruit. There's some evidence that it causes cancer in male rats, so it's better safe than sorry.
