Grandparents had 2 3/4 Chow, 1/4 Aussie Shepherd. Great dogs, one took on more chow appearance the other more shepherd. Both very protective and active digs, the more chow being the more aggressively protective with her sister pitching in. Knew their boundaries very well, like when they were in the truck they'd bark up a storm, making people scared for themselves worried they'd jump out after them. But they'd never jump out at people*, and if you let them out of the truck to run around some place that wasn't 'theirs' they'd leave other people alone and be relatively friendly, even if they were ready to take their arms off when they were in the truck. *Once each they have jumped out in response to dogs. The chow-ier one once jumped out to chase off a PACK of dogs chasing the vehicle. Skinned her chin and still scared the other dogs pack to their own yard. The more shepherd one once jumped out the window suddenly while on a long trip DOWN THE HIGHWAY, fortunately they weren't any other cars at the time and by some miracle she managed to land on and stay on the pads of her feet while sliding eagle spread along the road surface. I still have no idea how she managed not to get hurt and only have a little wear on the pads of her feet, since they were going 60-70mph at the time. Why did she jump out? After stopping, we realized we passed a large stone STATUE of a dog someone had marking the driveway to their property. ..She wasn't the brightest of the two, good dog nonetheless.
