Giving cats baths. Discuss. Notice the look of pure hatred in the eyes.

This one just looks a confused ham with breadsticks for legs.

Why would you even need to give your cat a bath? Mine always took care of themselves except for one that grew up around dogs. He would NEVER clean himself, ever.

Unfortunately, my kitty sans contracted fleaz from the dog. So everyone got a bath, and Frontlined and the house got defleaed.

Also, the black one is so fat he sometimes can't/won't reach clear back to his nether regions while grooming.

People that bath cats regularly are monstrous imbeciles.

It gets them used to it for whenever they need to give their cats baths for some other reason.
But yeah, I believe that cats can keep themselves clean well enough.

When you bathe cats, isn't it supposed to help when you hold the skin of their necks because it releases endorphines? Or is that just only with big cats like tigers and panthers...
>> Anonymous
it'd be more preferable to use that tic/flee stuff that you put on their necks, as shampoos (the cat shampoos are better) are bad for the natural oils in their skins plus i've seen a cat completely stop licking itself (cleaning itself) it was a bit of a problem for the owners.

My cats act like I don't exist for like 3 days after I give them a bath. Also, they seem to know when it's coming. Even if I don't do anything suspicious and approach one like I'm going to pet him or her (when in reality I'm going to grab them and give them a bath), they run away and hide.

My cat likes baths... do I own a mutant? o_o;
>> Anonymous
I think you should only bathe your cats in emergencies. I.E. they get skunk sprayed, they get fleas, they inexplicably get something all in their fur that isn't easily removable via their typical bathing method.

In other words bathe them sparingly.

This is my cat after a bath. We have to give him baths a couple of times a year just because sometimes when he goes outside he gets oil in his fur from hiding under cars or all dirty and muddy from who knows where. Basically we just give him baths when he's too dirty and smelly for anyone to want to hold him, but I'm always the one who has to do it and I always feel bad about it.

I bathe my cat once a year since she has long fur.
I wouldn't scare a poor kitty with water, but my cat's 13 already and she's not quite able to clean herself in every spot any more.
She doesn't like it, but once she's wet she patiently waits until everything is over. I only bathe her in summer 'cause I hope she'll enjoy the cooling then =^.^=

must... bathe... cat... TV said so.. durr

I try not to bathe my cats more than once a year, usually in late spring/early summer to get pollen off of them. My second-oldest cat is 13 and obese (she's a "cobby" cat with arthritis, so it is REALLY hard to keep her in shape) so she gets bathed at least twice a year, as it is very hard for her to groom her back end. The kittens got their first bath a few days ago, because I want them to be tolerant of it, just in case they ever HAVE to have it done.

Cats should be bathed as infrequently as possible, but it's not going to hurt them to get yearly or semiannual baths.

Never bathed any of our current cats (both 14 yr old). Couple of times they've had some stuff stuck in their fur, so I had a clip out a tuft of hair with scissors, but they've never messed their fur to the extent that they'd need to be bathed. Our previous cat had to be bathed once, after she had fallen into some some muck...

My apartment was getting "flushed" for a bad bug problem the building was having (funny, since I've never seen a bug in my apartment, save for a fly) so I had to find a place for my cat to stay for awhile... On very short notice. (Seriously. The apartment magaer came by and said "Tomorrow all this stuff is happening, so you need your apartment cleaned out by then or we'll fine you.")

So, I took my cat to my mom's house. Three days later I come to pick him up and he's covered in fleas and looks so sad. (Guess where he never stays again?) At first I tried the flea powder and spray I usually use but these things were all over him, getting icky flea dirt all in his fur... He was also beginning to act sick, not eating and crying all of the time. So I had to give him a bath to get those things off of him. He made the most horrible sounds I've ever heard and gave me scratches on my arms, legs, neck, and boobs.

It was horrible.

My cats are half turkish van. They like to splash the water in their bowl around on the ground but they don't like to get anything other than their paws wet.

I just take my cat in the shower with me once a month for a flea bath. I cut the water off, shampoo me, then shampoo her, then a quick rinse for us both...
Cat gets a quick towel dry, then I continue with the rest of my shower.
I simply do it because no matter what I try, towards the end of the cycle of the flea/tick gunk I put on her, I start to find fleas.

Friday (the one on the left) goes outdoors, so she gets bathed once a year when her fur gets too gritty for brushing to clean it. She's normally very cool about it, and just sits in the bottom of the tub giving me evil looks. Her daughter Moon on the other hand (the white one), well ... she also gets one bath a year as she starts to take a yellow tinge after a while.

...suffice to say I have never seen any animal scale a vertical linoleum wall before. I also emerge from the encounter looking like I decided to roll around in broken glass for fun.

I actually stopped using Frontline on my cat because she got a bald spot and what seemed like chemical burns where the stuff was applied... Which turned out to be an allergic reaction.
She does much better with the weaker stuff and a monthly bath, thanks.
Better a wet pussy in the shower with me than an angry red and itchy pussy.

if my cat has lived indoors all her life, is there any reason to give her a bath? my cat is pretty old and i haven't given her a bath in like.. what, 7 years? but like I said, she's been in-doors her entire life since I live in an apartment.
