Hello, /an/

My fifteen year old Shiba Inu has recently (within the past couple months) began shaking his head..way too often. He also scratches at his ears and yowls sometimes while he's doing so. Both of his ears also look bruised on the back (and no, I don't hit my dog).

I've given him a flea bath, medication, checked for ticks, checked for fleas, etc. etc. and have found nothing- but he's still shaking his head constantly.

Does anyone know what could be wrong with him? I plan on going to a vet in a week or so, but I don't want them fucking with me when it comes to what's wrong with him.

might be a tumor

Probably got water or gunk in his ears and they got infected. My dog does the same thing when that happens. Try smelling his ears and if they smell really disgusting then yes, probably an ear infection and the vet will give you a bottle of drops to put in there.

My dog used to get recurrent ear infections in the last couple of years of his life, and showed signs almost identical to what you are describing. Also, when bad he wouldn't let you touch anywhere near his ears, it was clearly painful. Vet time, I think.

my dog did this when she got barley husks in her ears from playing in a nearby field. we had to take her to the vets to get them taken out.

Not a tumor, nitwits. =P

Ear infection or mess in the ears, possibly. Mostly they shake their head when their balance organ is affected, and they feel funny because of that. This is often the result of an ear infection and may also explain the yowling when he scratches his ear(s) - cause the ears hurt! ;)

Of course, this is just a person wanting to be a vet so no expert yet, but a tumor would be looking at the most extreme answers before the simple ones...

OP here, thanks for all the input. I googled up ear infections in dogs and i'm pretty certain that's what he has now :)

I wish I had a shiba

Do the inside of his ears look dirty? Could be ear mites.
>> Anonymous
Ear infection or ear mites. It's probably vet time.
>> Anonymous
yeah could be something that's going on in the ear that he can't reach.

Noshit, it's vet time, especially as this dog has been suffering for TWO MONTHS according to OP. TWO MONTHS? While you sit on your ass and twiddle your thumbs? Shame on you OP.

take him to the vet he may have mites in his ears which can burrow into his scalp

mites. or... do you live near lots of dry grass and stickers? he could have some weed-type-thing stuck in there (can't think of what they're called - anyone know what I'm talking about?).

OP-I've been trying various things to try and cure him of his constant shaking up until this point, shitdip.

I don't live near either of those and I haven't taken him out to the woods or anything in a year or so now.

I agree with thrm, it sounds like ear mites to me. What you can do to help your dog until you can get to the vet:
coat a Q-tip with Olive oil, and clean his ears out. Gently - it's going to be sensitive, and he may bite.

Emphasis on gentle. I did this to my cat when she had ear mites and her ear started bleeding, though it might've been from the severity of the infestation. You might want help to hold him still while you do it, since it's going to be unpleasant for him and you could hurt him if he squirms.

>OP-I've been trying various things to try and cure him of his constant shaking up until this point, shitdip.

And none of these 'various things' have included going to the fucking vet?

Ungrateful piece of shit, don't insult people who are trying to help. That's tasteless and stupid.

You have a Shiba Inu? It doesn't get any more weeaboo than that.

What do you expect from fucktards who make posts like "OMG mydogsbeensick for like twomonths plz halp!" Either it didn't occur to this faggot to take the dog to the vet (he's stupid), didn't give enough of a shit to take the dog to the vet (he's a giant ass-ramming douchenozzle), or he's too cheap/can't afford to take the dog to the vet (he's a selfish cunt). Did you really expect any sort of reasonable, coherent response from this idiot? I'm surprised this dog has made it to such an old age without OP sitting on him.

OP here, funny you should say that. I just...it wasn't my fault, okay? I was just lowering my fat ass into the couch like normal, and he was all snuggled into the ass-dent that I've gradually caused there.

tl;dr Never mind, I sat on him. :(

And friend of mine's dog and my own dog did similar things. (head shaking a lot, yowling/grunting when their ears were touched)
Ends up there's a type of yeast infection dogs can get in their ears. It took drops for about 2 weeks to clear it up.

>but I don't want them fucking with me

Your goal in posting this was to get a diagnosis from 4chan before going to the veterinarian with the premise of assuming the doctor is going to "fuck with you" when it comes to a diagnosis.

So when you do go, what will you say after they give you a diagnosis? "No that's not right, don't fuck with me, 4chan said that it's blah blah blah."

You completely fucking fail, OP. Kill yourself.

just incase you didn't know /an/, when you wash your dog (if you ever do), try to keep the water and dog shampoo out of its ears, that'll avoid any infections if they occur.

oh and fucking sage
