Can you rename a dog? I heard you can't do so with cats, but what about dogs?

Has never seen a vagina (or a picture of one, apparently)

Of course you can. But it can take a while for the pooch to get used to and recognize the new name...

Our dog got used to her new name in about a week. She was rescued from an abusive home and was afraid of her old name when we got her...

yes if its young(ish) you say the name it was called followed by the name you want to call it so if like your dogs name is mary and you want it to be called rose you would start calling it maryrose and over time you start to gradually not say mary anymore

Well actually, in my opinion that would just make the dog confused.

It's better to switch right off, but it could require some treats and such to get the dog to associate the new name with something nice.

Thank you all for your help

Yeah, but you might want to keep the new name somewhat similar sounding to the old name just so the transition goes easier. Try keeping a similar ending or beginning (like if the original name ended in an "ie"/"y" sound, try giving the new name that too).

*stares* I renamed all my cats. They didn't seem to care. And they do respond to those names. Just takes time.

my dog responds more to being called 'stupid' than to his actual name

My cat doesn't even respond to her name, so I think you just have good cats.

Lol, mine too.
