hey /an/, I need some help. There seems to be something wrong with my cat, and I'm getting kind of worried here, since he's never really behaved like this.

Since this morning around 6AM, he's been under my bed. Nothing can get him out, I've tried pushing him and pulling him, but he just meows so I stop fearing I'm hurting him. I just got him out a few minutes ago, and I placed him on my bed. He looked absolutely terrified. His tail was swishing and he kept looking about the room in an alert fashion, yet at the same time he seemed to be scared of something.

I stopped petting him for a moment, and he rushed back under my bed. I don't know what's wrong with him. He doesn't respond to food either.

If it helps any, he's around 9 in human years and neutered. He doesn't seem to be hurt, and he's pretty healthy minus a very small case of hair loss below his ears. This is the first time I've seen him act like this, so I'm a bit worried. Pic is of my cat.

meh, if he's a housecat, he might be hearing somehting in the walls and be freaking out. other than that, idk.

He's gonna die. I'm not kidding.

Animals always freak when they're gonna die. Sorry :(

Sounds like he got into some kind of toxin. Do you happen to have a dish of antifreeze laying around, or any neighbors that hate you? Look around the house for anything that he could have eaten, and take him to a vet.

Sounds like somebody tried to rape him. Same thing happened with mine. I think he died a little inside.

seconded, take kitty to vet asap.

then again, animals tend to freak out before an earthquake, perhaps this is his way of saying your house was not built to code

ghosts? that rape? and scrabble around in the wall? and cause earthquakes? IDK

I'm being serious unlike some people here. I had a cat who was very healthy and young but one day he got sick, and the good news is this isn't like that. He was very submissive and wouldn't move, not freaked out and running. He died the next day from urinary tract infection even though we got him to the vet that night.
But like I said, cats don't usually act scared if they are sick. He's probably just afraid of something you can't sense.

Dis sum creepy shit right here. I think you better be off asking in /x/

Sorry man, Your cat is dying.

Cats/Dogs when they die go to a confined space (Under Bed/Back Deck w/e) and they act different than usual. Either scared/angry.

Sorry man, cat's gonna die.

If he's dying it means he's sick, since he's too young.
Go to a vet to see what he's got.

He can see Death that has come to get YOU.

9 human years isn't that young of a cat

my cat does that every once in awhile. its a cat. they act strange sometimes. give it a few days and it should be fine. probably just got scared by something.

OP, if the cat was older, I might say he'd had a stroke. However, even a young cat/person can have a stroke or some other kind of event that disrupts the function of the mind or other senses... I would seriously get the cat to a veterinarian and have the problem diagnosed.

OP here, thanks for all the advice. Unfortunately, taking him to a vet isn't such an easy task where I live. But I'll try tomorrow if he's still freaking out.

Actually, it seems he's scared of something in my room. He finally came out and has been in my living room for the rest of the day, and he doesn't seem agitated over there. But when I tried bringing him to my room, he started freaking out again. It's really strange, because there's nothing in my room. There are iguanas on the roof sometimes, but we've lived here for a few years, so I doubt that's what's bothering him.

Are cats frightened by intruders? There's a small storage house outside my room, and it was broken into yesterday. My dad said that perhaps it scared him, but that just seems kind of strange to me. Thoughts?

We adopted a cat that was about 4 years old and we found out he is deathly afraid of thunder and sirens. We really can't do much since its a psychological problem from his past, but I just try to lay with him on the bed and pet him.

Another reason could also be an insect. Our cat has a tendency to eat insects. When it is a larger insect, he tends to eat part and then freaks out rapidly. Shakes his head and jumps in the air then runs away for no apparent reason. I kind of wonder if the insect has pinchers and might be biting his tongue.

I hope this helps, but I would just check for insects in your room. It might have tried to eat something it wasn't supposed to.

cats well...usually run away unless they're used to ppl being around.
hmmm i've heard stories of can't being able to sense things that you can't see. such as keeping away from a certain part of the room. hmm perhaps try shutting down anything that makes noise and see what then. if it continues, remove more factors like lights. or in the daytime, make a room dark. if you dont want to try that one yet take him to another room and continue. if he acts normal, then rule out that room. then go back to your room. and continue the experiments. hmm try flipping you bed over so the cat cant get under anything and leave the cat alone for like 20 minutes. see where it goes/stays away from. then repeat the process with you in the room. if it continues, get a video camera and video tape that side of the room (the bad side) maybe get a sound amplifier. and voila, your room/house may be haunted! you're place can be on tv! if you're not horribly murdered b4 then ^.^
lmao bad joke i know, but try it anyway, i'm curious about this too

a scared cat will go to the nearest place it can hide, not necessarily in the opposite direction of anything.

It could be that-- maybe the sound or sight of the intruder breaking in back there alarmed him so much that he thinks it might happen again. Maybe he was just entering your room when it happened and he now associates your room with bad, loud things.

It could be something frightened him while he was in the room and he associates the room with the fright. Maybe a smell or sound is bothering him, like the others said try turning off things and see how he reacts.

I know this may sound corny, but my own animals have done it too and they might be reacting to paranormal occurances. Animals are more sensitive than humans to many things, changes in the environment caused by paranormal events (changes in energy flow, temperature fluctuations, sounds and sights) could be detected by animals. Yes, I just said ghosts may have spooked the cat. Not an uncommon occurence, actually.

Depending on where you live, he may have been reacting to an early-warning sign of a disaster like an earthquake. I had a cat that became very agitated and scared before the Landers-Big Bear quakes of 1992 and the Northridge quake in '94.

Just some theories.

could be poisioned, has it been sick?

one of our cats managed to eat rat poision, she died but not before she gave birth to 4 gorgeous kittens.
>> Anonymous
He should be foaming at the mouth if poison/toxic stuff was involved.
But, like others mentioned, if the weird behavior is related just to your room then it's most likely he got freaked out by something there. If he's eating and pooping properly then you shouldn't worry too much. If he likes to sleep in the same bed with you leave the door opened and let him come back in the room at his own pace.
However, if the behavior continues and he won't touch his food then seeking vet help is a must.

Superstitiousanonymous is faggot.

There's probably something in the air that smells like something the cat associates with danger. Open a window, get a fan in there, air the place out and see if it helps.

OP here. Whole situation is really starting to freak me out. He doesn't seem sick. It seems my room is the only place where he becomes agitated.

What's strange is, even though he didn't want to come in before, my sister opened the door of my room and he dashed inside, and went-- you guessed it-- under my bed. He's still there, wide awake. It's starting to make me think there really is something in my room, because outside of it he's perfectly normal.
