If as you said, most of the intestines were ripped out, the animal was going to die no matter what you or anyone else could do. Even a vet would have just given it an injection and let it be. Putting aside my automatic rabbit=vermin=kill it response, you just gave a dying animal respite from a slow, agonising, terrifying death.
And if that rabbit was a domestic stolen from someone's yard as opposed to a wild one, expect eventual repercussions from people seriously pissed off that your uncontrolled, untrained and unrestained dogs are knocking off their pets. If it was a wild rabbit, worm your animals and check them for any wounds or signs of disease.
