Staple pellets are pretty cheap, especially at farm supply stores. But they need a lot of supplements, fresh veggies, and unlimited access to some kind of hay (I fed mine timothy hay). I'm not sure of exact costs, though. You can get pretty cheap bundles of greens at the grocery store, usually like 89 cents a bunch. I fed mine cilantro, parsley, collard greens, kale, stuff like that.
Luckily they're easy to litter train and their poop is pretty small anyway. I had to pick up the occasional poop off the floor but I don't think he ever peed anywhere but his litter pan. Of course, he was so big, sometimes he'd scoot his butt off the side and get the floor.
Take all this information as you will, I mean, if you're willing to put in the time and effort and money to set up an appropriate living space for a flemish giant, then by all means. I loved mine, but I don't think I would have gotten him if I'd known exactly what I was getting into. I probably would have gone with a dwarf instead, even though I hear they're a little more high strung. Dwarves also live longer, supposedly.
So.. yeah.
