gnats Anonymous
How can I get rid of gnats. I read that I could put a jar of vinegar out and poke holes in the top. This should make a trap for them. I tried this, and all they do is congregate on the top. So, I made the holes bigger hopping this would lure them inside the jar. Nope, they just play on the top. Any suggestions?

op here. I did clean up around the sink and throw out the trash. So, I think I took away their breeding grounds. I just want to get rid of the remaining few.

If they are near the sink, you probably have fruit flies, and not gnats. They live and feed in the area of the drain just inside the sink. If you have a garbage disposal in your sink that is perfect for them. The residue from fruits and veggies in there is what they are eating.

Solution: Wash the sink very well to get rid of any traces of food.

Clean out the garbage disposal. A great way to do this is to grind some ice with a little soap at the same time. Once you've cleaned it out, pull out the rubber splash guard and spray some ordinary househould bug spray in there. Then replace the splashguard.

You can also use fly paper or something similar to trap the adults.

Fruit flies have a very short life cycle, so even if you don't catch the adults they will die off quickly once you've eliminated their food source and their breeding area.
