What does /an/ think of "designer dogs?"

Pic is related. It's a poodle/doberman cross with some faggotous name like doodleman pincer.

Designer dogs = another way for white suburban trash to feel better about owning a mutt.

designer dogs are a stupid idea... people breed these dogs just so they can turn a huge profit since some fools will be "OMFG this dog is like no other dog i must have it!!!!111!!"

basically a huge scam, go to the pound, get a rescue, they'll be grateful and you'll have a dog

mutts, pure breeds. what ever. A dog is a dog.

Basically, yes, but I still contend that you look ten times fucking dumber if you shell out two thousand dollars for a mixed breed dog than if you do the same for a purebreed.

Although either way, you are still a moron. Go to the goddamn shelter, you yuppie faggots.

People with little imagination breeding unnecessary puppies into the world to make some money instead of getting a job - then spending inordinate amounts of energy and time trying to convince others their dogs are better. People buying mix breeds for a stack of money because they are trying to be exclusive - "Hah! You only have a Labrador - IIIII have a LabraDoodle!" People ignoring the fact that millions of puppies and dogs get put down and die miserable deaths each year around the world. People being driven into thinking their dogs are disposable fashion accessories - "OH DEAR, my dog does NOT match my furniture!" Some people being driven to think their mutts are worth less and treating them accordingly.
I can understand wanting to buy a purebred, as well as buying a mutt for genetic health reasons – but buying and supporting the expansion of glorified mutts is too much.
Don’t get me wrong! The dogs themselves are beautiful animals, just like the mutts/mongrels you find in the shelters. In the end, I don’t feel negatively towards the people who buy them (only the breeders) – I DO wonder why they didn’t buy a rescued mutt/mongrel, however.

I have a 'designer' dog (That has to be the most retarded name ever. seriously, hes a mutt and so are all the others.) And he's absolutely wonderful! He was actually a compromise between my parents. My mom wanted a Golden retriever, and my step dad wanted a poodle because hes allergic to cat/dog fur. So we ended up getting a mix between the two.

It disturbs me to think that people see dogs as a fashion statement, decoration etc. and the dogs in the shelters are forgotten about because of that. Shelter dogs are just as good as dogs from breeders.

Retarded. Also ugly, when mixed with poodles.

I didn't think about people with allergies, there aren't many larger breeds suitable from what I know. Chinese Crested, anyone?

I only understand "designer breeds" when they try to fix a flaw ie mixing x breed with poodle = no shead, or mixing a pug with a beagel (puggle) to create a pug with a nose (less respitory problems) but im still hard pressed to pay $1000 + for a mutt... because anyway you shake it... it is a mutt... not AKC recognized and yeah mutts... they dont belong in pet stores, they belong in the classifieds!

I also have a designer dog, for the poodle mixed in because my whole family is allergic to dogs and it's better for us. None of us have problems with reacting to him, or at least not significantly.

For some reason I've looked at all the local shelters and it esems like poodles and poodle-mixes, or other more allergy-friendly dogs are rarely in those shelters. So call me a yuppy faggot if you want, but I feel my reason was pretty good. All of the other pets I've had have been adopted from shelters. Oh, and the dog was about $300, not $1000.

$300 for a large breed dog like that?
Dear god, large breeds in shelters around here go for $100-$150.

Pic is my dog. He's 3/4 Schnauzer, 1/4 Poodle. He failed as a 'designer dog' because he's fugly as, but we like him

I'm not going to pay $900 for a mutt when I can just adopt one for $200(adoption fees lol).
You'll find a doodleman pinscher at the pound but nooo. People think if they get it from a breeder and pay 1k for it, it'll be much better!
Same fucking thing. Adopt a dog, fgts.

Mutts are said to be better than purebreeds anyway.

Fixed the typo in case it's what made you two totally ignore that statement.

I would rather have an afghan hound cross than a poodle cross. Pic related: afghan - collie mix.

When most people think of getting a dog, they want a specific breed, and they want a puppy. Which is why breeders get so much more business than shelters.

They suck. I never had any dog allergies even though I spent my entire life alongside relatively long-haired dogs such as golden retrievers, yorkshires and collies and never had any problems. Recently we've taken a chinese crested into our home because it didn't have anywhere else to go and I've had horrible rashes and ringworm ever since. I spent last week away from home and returned yesterday. During that week the rashes disappeared and the ringworm started to heal, but my skin is getting irritated and itchy now that I'm around the dog again. It's not the dog, it's the breed, I have the exact same thing with the "naked" catbreed.

Hairless breeds of cats and dogs are, indeed, WORSE on allergies. That is because you are allergic to protein compounds in the skin residue and dried saliva, NOT hair, which is mostly just harmless keratin. A hairless animal does not have the fur to trap some of that particulate to keep it form getting all over you, so you have a worse reaction. This is also why poodle fur tends to prompt less of a reaction. The fact that the curly coat traps in more shed hair (yes, they do shed, it just doesn't leave the coat) means that it also traps more skin residue and dried saliva.

And also why retarded faggots with more money than brains spend > US$1000 on them.
