Any fish experts here?

Got some new tropical fish this morning. All seemed to be going well today but a few minutes ago one of my new few just started...failing.

It seems to have lost all sense of sight or direction. It was swimming around normally, and then all of a sudden, gone. While its swimming its slowly rotating around as if it doesnt know up from down, going in totally random directions, bumping into things, and sometimes getting stuck in the plants because its way too dizzy to even know what the hell to do with itself.

Uh..what?

maybe your water chemistry is off. You might want to check that.

What kind of fish are we talking about? It might be normal adjustment to the tank.

yeah, did it die? fish just die sometimes. i have alot of money in dead fish. salt waters the best.

Not dead. Yet, at least. Still just kind of failing at swimming, ending up in coners most of the time curled up or upside down or some other crazy ass position.

Yeah I should check my pH levels.

You know, I forgot the name of this particular fish. I got a few today. I can describe him, though.

Pretty long and slender. Not tall. Body is totally clear, I can see the bones and organs quite clearly. All of the organs are in the front and the rest is mostly clear space. He's a tropical fish.

Sounds like glass catfish. I found this: "In captivity, they have shown a natural affinity for current in their water and they may not function properly without it." at http://www.aquatic-hobbyist.com/profiles/freshwater/catfish/glasscatfish.html

So try turning up your filter and seeing if he improves.

Yeah, that looks like it to me.

My filter is pretty basic so I'm not sure I can turn it up. I'll go check it soon.

My other glass catfish is doing perfectly fine, though. No barrel rolls for him.

Currently my problematic fish is just laying sideways on the ground doing nothing but still living.

Thanks for the help.

No, its definitely alive.

Well, I got it out of a corner in a rock and out into more open water to watch it. It is still alive, attempting to swim, but failing. No sense of up or down. It is much more sluggish now. Also, its body is stuck in the curved shape it was in when it laid against the rock. Its muscles are stiffening, I suppose. I assume that it will soon be dead.

Ok, lets start with water since it is the problem in 95% of fish death.
Whats your t, ph, gh, dh, ammonia, nitrites?
How big is the tank, how long do you have it, is it planted, how many other fish do you have? Did you actualy cycled the tank? Did you acclimatised your fish? Do you use something to clean chlorine and chloramine out of you water?
LOL MA FISH IS DYING is not a great decription.

To add: What kind of filter do you use, how long did it cycle?

Beyond help. Even most sick fish don't have trouble swimming, IMO and in all my experience any fish that can't control where he's going in the tank anymore, i.e. no sense of direction or just seems to be flying into shit all the time is beyond help.

Tell us when you set up the tank, how many fish you put in it and when, what fish is affected and which aren't, and test your water and post the parameters.
