I can't see any topics here? What's wrong with me? Pike unrelated, I guess.

How big do those things grow? A retarded fish store near my house has like 10 of those guys in a single tank.

HUGE. Way too huge for a typical home aquarium.

I've seen baby arapaima gigas for sale on aquabid.com before. The seller said "they'll need a big tank" well no shit. Frustrating.

There are different pike fish. Thats a problem wth common names, you never know for sure what is it. Some so called pike fish grow to 3 inches, others might grow up to 2 meters and live longer then 50 years.

One fish store nearby sells redtail catfish. I think noone should be allowed to buy such a fish without a license. Or iridiscent shark - those grow to be giants, and yet almost every fish store sells them.

Yeah, sometimes I think so too. Lots of unprepared people buy them, realize they dont have what it takes to care for them, and then release them in to local ponds where all hell breaks loose for the ecosystem. That, or the fish dies young in its own filth in an undersized tank. Shit sux, but it seems to happen even with fish that aren't big enough to eat a small dog, so restricting large fish doesn't seem like it'd solve the problem.

Plus, I want one of these.

I've see baby arapaima for sale here in Japan.

Some hobbiests actually keep them in tanks. I've seen a few tanks that were barely bigger than the fish... that's fucked up.
