I just noticed a lump on the side of my puppy. It isn't causing her pain, but it is pretty large and swollen. I checked for any ticks or bites but couldn't find anything. I have just put her to bed.. does anyone know what it could be?

My old, 19 year old dog had something like that, took her to see the vet, and it was some kind of wart or somesuch, he said it wasn't a problem, and didn't advise getting it removed as, being 19, she probably wouldn't survive the surgery.

If it's a puppy, though, I'd advise you take her to see the vet ASAP, it's probably nothing but it could be some sort of infection or many other bad things.

If you can't get to the vet right away, watch your puppy closely for signs of discomfort, erratic behavior, loss of appitite etc.

Take pup to the vet asap. It could be a hernia, among other things. Regardless, if it came up suddenly and is growing quickly, it's a matter for the vet.

The poster above is certainly right that old dogs get lumpy-- fatty lumps, lipomas, etc. just below the outer skin, are very common in aging dogs. Just make sure the vet knows about them, and keep track of them and if they start growing fast, have the vet check them out.
