I'm very alergic to cats, but I have a rabbit. Rabbits are like cats in that they can use a litterbox, are independent, and groom a lot. Unlike cats, they are a prey animal, so you must approach them a different way. If you were to get a rabbit, do a lot of research first. The worst thing about rabbits is the bun-proofing that you have to do. They have to chew on things to keep their teeth filed down. Wire and books are prime bait.
I love my rabbit. She is a sweetheart, but figuring out how to bun proof is the biggest challenge.
Some rabbits take awhile to warm up to people. Luckily, mine was well socialized.
