Hey /an/, guy from a while back who found this rabbit.

I was wondering, what stuff other than rabbit food pellets, lettuce, grass hay, and other sorts of vegetables can I feed him?

Is fruit okay? What kinds? I mostly want to introduce some new foods to him and maybe find something I can give him for a treat.

Currently, he get a diet of good quality rabbit food, grass hay, and small amounts of mixed veggies (mostly lettuce though, as that's what i have the most of).

thanks in advance.

Don't feed rabbits lettuce, it has no nutritional value and fills him up so he won't eat something that does.

Hello again Anon! Lettuce is bad for your bunny, don't feed him that even though you have a lot of it. That's like feeding someone arsenic because you have it laying around. :p But to help you, here's what Google tells me. And remember, only introduce new foods slowly or else he can get diarrhoea and die.

"Vegetables

Alfalfa, radish & clover sprouts
Basil
Beet greens (tops)
Bok choy
Broccoli (mostly leaves/stems; limit, can cause gas)
Brussels sprouts
Carrot & carrot tops
Celery
Cilantro
Clover
Collard greens
Dandelion greens and flowers (no pesticides)
Endive
Escarole
Kale (limit)
Mint
Mustard greens
Parsley
Pea pods (the flat edible kind)
Peppermint leaves
Radicchio
Radish tops
Raspberry leaves
Red Leaf lettuce
Romaine lettuce (no iceberg or light colored leaf)
Spinach (limit)
Watercress
Wheat grass

Fruits:

Apple
Blueberries
Melon
Orange (remove the peel)
Papaya
Peach
Pear
Pineapple
Plums
Raspberries
Strawberries

Occasional Treats:

Small piece of carrot (1/2 inch)
Naturally dried fruits (1 tsp, or 1-2 raisins, Craisins, etc)

Absolutely NO chocolate (poisonous!), cookies, crackers, breakfast cereals, bread, pasta, yogurt drops, or other "human treats." There is research to suggest these items may contribute to fatal cases of enterotoxemia, a toxic overgrowth of "bad" bacteria in the intestinal tract."

Is he doing okay otherwise? Good to hear back from you!

Sugary foods aren't good for rabbits.

Stuff with glucose or fructose can cause bowel obstructions or diarrhea.

Rabbits can't digest milk products. Seeds can cause GI blockade. Things sold in petstores *for bunnies* generally are terrible for them.
Small amounts of groats or rolled oats, at best.
Also *iceberg* lettuce is bad. Others like romaine and butter lettuce are perfectly fine.

He is growing!
Every time I see his pic it reminds me of my Honey Bunny. *sigh* He looks just like her.

What's his name, BTW?

I thought romaine was terrible for them too.

It's ok, mine will eat it eventually. But the little bastards are pick so, not always. Iceberg lettuce, on the other hand, isn't good even for humans. No nutritional value at all.
