Why do some cats give affection? Anonymous
Why do cats give affection if they are not social animals besides getting food? How does it benefit them?

I have a cat who will show affection all the time. he will purr when i touch him, come up and sleep next to me, and etc... and another one who won't give a shit about you until hes hungry.

Cats think of us as bigger cats, just like we get on with certain people, so do cats.
my mum's cat hates me, but my cat doesn't leave me alone, some just yearn for more attention than others.
Also, cat's are extremly social animals, it's a bit of a myth that they're not.

feral cats and big cats also live in packs, although feral cats are more likey to go it alone.
They interact with us the same as they would with another cat.

Feral cats live in groups but hunt alone. That confuses a lot of people.

Because getting along is generally a good strategy. Helps with breeding and so forth.

Cats ARE social animals. The wild cats our domestic cats are descended from live in loose communities, although they hunt alone. In cities wild cats will naturally form similiar cat packs, and may seek food together and even have a distinct "pecking order" as you would expect from a social species.
