Contrary to how it may seem, cats are actually more closely related to wolves than dogs are. Dogs are actually descended from badgers.

i can't understand what the OP is trying to say
something about a dog in a closet related to a wolf in australia?
>> Anonymous
>>254531
I think OP wants to keep a wolfish dog, and he asks which breed is allowed in Australia... The question is if OP means a wolfish looking breed or a breed that is genetically closly related to the wolf (and with that less domesticated and hard to train & keep)... in any case, OP is a fag.

I think you may be looking for the Saarlooswolfhond.

The only dog for any self respecting Australian is a Blue Heeler.

You can get wolf-dog hybrids, im not really sure which breed is the best to mix with a wolf, but i hear it happens in the wild fairly often, particularly in europe.

Anyway, wiki has a lot to say about it, look it up.

Just get a German Shepherd.

Closest behaviour like a dog is a Dingo

Closest wolf looking dog would be a Malamute or Husky

Any Wolf or Wolf Dog hybrid is not allowed in Australia due to the risk of it possibly escaping and breeding with native dogs. (yeah i know its stupid, but I already checked it out) (forgot to ask about desexed wolves)

If you've never owned a dog like a Husky before, then you'll be in for a rude shock as they need special considerations to get the most out of them.

All of those large breeds have nice big penises, too.

It's beyond me why you would want to get such a thing. Yes, a dingo is the closest you could get here behaviourally-wise, but seriously, why would you want to? I'm sure that you can socialise some pure-bred dingos enough for them to bond with humans, but from what I hear the process doesn't always work and you're left with a vicious, intermitantly violent animal with no fear of humans. Very uncool. If you're just after the look then yes, GSDs, huskies etc are all options. But if you want one of these beasties just to say, "Look at me, I own a wolf," then you shouldn't be allowed to keep animals ever because you are a brainless twat. There's a reason why humans have spent the last ten thousand years refining the domestic dog. Hell, if you want something wild then go inland and trap yourself a feral dog. It'll be even more vicious than a dingo. Bet you'll feel like a big man then.

OP, you're retarded. you just want a 'wolf' because you think it's cool and you're a furry. you don't have the time, money, or intelligence to properly care for one.

tl;dr: you don't need one, kill yourself.

they can be trained, you just have to work harder with them. dogs like the huskies are some of the most difficult breeds to work with; which is why purebred huskies are among the most common purebred dogs that are abandoned.
OP can get one, but he will be giving it back away or abandoning it as soon as he can if he's not completely dedicated and committed.

anyway, all he asked for was the name of a breed. he didn't specify how much intelligence he had, or money. this could also be his first dog, or fourth. maybe he has experience, maybe he doesn't.

Huskey or if you get a permit, a Dingo (closest genetically to wolves from asia, they originally came here when free merchants made landing here before it was ever Australia)

Huskeys are independent by nature as well, they are quite strictly on-the-lead dogs in any metro area and anywhere else they risk running away and never coming back cause they have horrible homing senses.
Also strong prey drive so they have a fair chance of attacking and even killing (though not for anything but instinct) cats/small dogs/kids.
UNless they're trained incredibly well, and they aren't beginner training material.

I had a dominantly Dingo, Dingo x Aussie Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) for most of my young life and she was unruly enough, couldn't train her for road sense, she only liked myself and my father anyone else she barked at and bailed up. She was horrible off the lead, otherwise, ran over twice, lucky each time she went between the wheels, got up and continued her merry way. She hated other dogs. Destructive when she was young.
And don't forget, that was a female, which are much calmer as a rule, males have dominance issues and challenge authority often.

Trust me, if you want anything but a personal pet who is just naturally a good guard dog, you're not having kids anytime soon, etc.., I suggest not getting a Dingo.
Huskeys I have no reason to believe are any different in the unruly sense.

Can the original poster give us more info as to the reasons they want this? Is it for Athetics, or you are looking for a challenge in regards to training, or something else?
