PETA is still batshit crazy! Anonymous
Saw this article and couldn't believe it, are they serious?

"PETA wants Ben and Jerrys to use human milk in their ice cream. They got the idea after a restaurant in Switzerland announced it would use 75 percent breast milk in its food. PETA officials say a move to human breast milk would lessen the suffering of dairy cows and their babies."

Suffering?! They stand around eating all day while people squeeze their cow-boobs. That beats running wild and getting eaten by wolves.

Every time PETA does something insane in the news, I grow more and more convinced that they are real life trolls. Very successful ones too, considering people still pay attention to them.

I think dairy cows have pretty good lives. They're like giant, cow-shaped house cats that can be milked.

Well, it's a little weird that people would be grossed out by human breast milk, which most babies are supposed to drink, but not get grossed out by cow breast milk, which is from a totally different species.
I don't know much about nutrition, but one would think the human milk is better for you since it's specifically made for humans. Or is there some point in childhood when your body goes, "Sorry, no more human milk for me! I'm graduating to cows and goats."

But besides that, I'm not seeing the harm in milking cows, or even humans, assuming both are taken care of properly. Really, is it so bad to have a job where you stand or sit around having your nipples squeezed? Sheesh, if I ever get pregnant, sign me up for that job.
>> Anonymous
>>313482
Try tasting nipple milk sometime.

We drink cow milk for the same reason we eat the cows. Humans taste like shit.
>> Anonymous
Breast milk is sort of... not actually good for you after infancy...
>> Anonymous
There would be NO WAY to regulate Breast Milk...

As I recall, the milk actually differs mom-to-mom, because whatever she eats/intakes (including meds) actually gets transferred through the milk... that's why you hear of so many medical precautions ending with 'If you are breasting feeding, please contact your doctor', because you can end up giving your kid whatever you took....

I don't find it particular gross, but cows are regulated in what they intake... and to do that to humans for the sake of using the breast milk in foods would be inhuman.

It's the culture we've been raised in. Do you seriously think that in any civilized place a man drinking human breast milk would be accepted as though he were drinking cow milk?

Considering only about a third of the people in /d/ thought so, that probably isn't a great sign for you, no... Though, I hang out there so, don't take that as a critisizm.

Personally I'm torn between highly perturbed, not-at-all suprised, and mostly just disgusted.

You guys know that cows don't just make milk all the time, right? They have to be mated (usually artificially because it's safer) and give birth to young before making milk, the same as pretty much every mammal out there. So what PETA is supposed to be "protesting" is the rape and pillage of these cows, and consequently their calves for veal production.

That being said, fuck PETA. I can't stand the way they go on and on about animal rights and objectifying living things and then turn around and use scantily-clad women for almost all of their ad campaigns. Then there's the whole hypocrisy and eco-terrorist funding. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

it does take a while for the females to stop lactating however - as long as a female mammal continues to have "something" suckling (whether is a baby or a machine) she'll keep lactating. Women have been recorded as lactating for more than 5 years (because they lactate their children up to that age.) Also, females need not re-mate to continue lactating - in fact the hormones released when a female is breastfeeding (the same ones in birth-control drugs, hence the tender breasts and no periods) prevent her from ovulating, so no more kids until she dries up.
I have no idea as to the procedures for dairy cow mating are but I expect that they are probably only mated successfully once or twice. Anything more is unnecessary.
Oh, and FUCK PETA

I love how no one here actually gets it: PETA are trolls. That's what they're entire organization is. Now, yes, I agree with some of their principles. But, they make noise. Sometimes it's justified, a lot of times all they do is stir things up. And they get people here to have perpetual hissyfits. Someday one of you is going to get a heart attack.
>> Anonymous
>>313509
I knew it was required, but not of what happens to the calves. But anyway, how is it safer to mate cows artificially? Would it do some kind of harm to just leave 2 of them in the same stable overnight?

Honestly, when i see sperm collecting on Discovery i always assumed they were just perverts.

Also, FUCK PETA.
>> Anonymous
>>313536
oh, and i expect that the cultural emphasis in many cultures on getting the kid off the teat after they turn 1 is probably because people needed to have a ton of kids in the past and mom can't keep popping em out if she's got milk
And once again, FUCK PETA. that is all

This idea works for a small restaurant like they mention, but Ben and Jerry's is an entire fucking BUSINESS. You'd need to establish human-milking farms. Then they would have to be regulated. Every person would need to be tested for disease prior to milking. How much would you pay someone for such a thing? And how would you locate a large number of females so willing to have their nipples pinched by machines to be fed to the masses? Would they need to give hormones to their workers to get them to lactate constantly? Would that be healthy, conventional?
PETA just doesn't care about people or think of things in the long run, and it pisses me off. You can't postulate an idea like that, or push it on people and not even explain how it would work or offer help organizing it. Now, they donate billions of dollars to begin a human-milking franchise and set up a system that guarantees no diseases being transmitted and constant testing on each tub, then it'd be considerable. They have no fucking hindsight.

This was never a serious proposition. The point was to get themselves in the news and have retards at home and on the internet talking about it. That's it.

Considering most cows walk into their milking stalls voluntarily, I can really see how they're suffering and hating every second of it.

That's not fair that male animals are given the oppurtunity to orgasm, and with free handjobs too! It's unfair for the female animals that they have to endure all the pain of giving birth, but none of the joys of a good orgasm.

So a human drinking human milk is pig disgusting, but a human drinking bovine milk (which contains pus, in case you were unaware) is A-okay. Humans sure are fucking weird.

Human milk contains 'pus' too. It's just a malfunction of the milk-creating function and harmless.

i dunno. itd be better if they used soy milk (which by the way is fucking YUMMY... as long as its Silk. any other brand tastes like asshole). but humans arent designed to drink cows milk, whicih u all probably say is yummy etc etc, but what other animal consumes a different species milk!? our bodies arent designed to process milk, therefore all the so called "nutrients" arent properly absorbed.

I thought it hurt cows if you didn't milk them?

... Do you honestly think cows can milk themselves with their hooves and that farmers tie them up or something?

Also, a dairy cow makes 5 times the milk its calf can drink in a day, so no, I don't think a dairy cow will have all of her problems solved by being with the calf.

My dad went to Penn State when Ben and Jerry went, and he has a pretty good idea of what they'll do. They're going to tape themselves laughing uncontrollably for a long time, simultaneously say no at the end, and send it to Newkirk.

>... Do you honestly think cows can milk themselves with their hooves and that farmers tie them up or something?

No, but a human being could, which was the point. HURRRR.

>Also, a dairy cow makes 5 times the milk its calf can drink in a day, so no, I don't think a dairy cow will have all of her problems solved by being with the calf.

While genetics (and artificial hormones) does play a role production is still tied heavily to stimulation. If you milk a cow 5x more heavily than a calf would suckle then yes, you're eventually going to get the cow to produce a lot more milk than a calf could consume.
>> Anonymous
>>314571

facepalm.jpg

GUESS WHAT. Cows are not human beings, genius. You can't place human attributes on them randomly and insist they're being mistreated.

Also, stimulation is only tied to initial production, it does not increase the rate of production. Suckling at a dry teat all day won't get you extra milk, but I'm sure you annoyed your mother a lot, you stupid little twerp.

Also, farmers only milk cows twice a day at most. There is no extra stimulation involved.

Look, just shut up already. Eating a dictionary clearly didn't make you more knowledgeable about cows or dairy farming.
>> Anonymous
>>314593
I didn't say they were mistreated, dumbshit. I was pointing out the fact that you don't fucking NEED to milk a cow if you leave its calf with it to express the milk naturally. The calf will wean and the cow will stop lactating. Dairy farming is a manipulation of the cow's production of milk for its young, not some fucking symbiotic relationship where cows lactate their whole lives and need to be milked or their teats will explode.

lol. One of the primary reasons women with infants use breast pumps is to increase and maintain milk production.

Not the person you're arguing with, but actually, yes it will. It is advised against to engage in excessive (re; EXCESSIVE) nipple-play or sucking between couples, as too much could, yes, result in lactation. You CAN increase milk-production and ect by both food and nipple stimulation.

Ovulation does not stop indefinitely due to breast feeding, at most ovulation only stops completely for the first 6 month. Then the implantation of the embryo has a reduced chance of success, but not impossible like what>>313536is suggesting. Lactation will stop because the body then reroutes all the nutrients that were going to milk production for the developing embryo/fetus.
