Often they are kept in very poor facilities. I'm quite fine with the idea that a couple dozen monkeys and lab rats died to create a cure for cancer or AIDS; hell, even a couple thousand if need be. But as long as we're acknowledging that those animals were a legitimate sacrifice, we might as well keep them well-fed and happy. And they're frequently not, which I see as pretty good grounds for protests, though I've never gone on one myself. I just buy non-animal tested shampoo.
