Hi /an/.

I'm thinking about getting a dog somewhere down the line. I know what kind of dog I like, and I also know what kind of situation I may be in in the future.

Basically, my only criteria is that the dog look as close to a wolf as possible, and have a reasonably healthy old age.

When I get this dog, I'll probably be in a smallish kinda apartment, about 1000 squared feet. I'll have work everyday so I won't be home during the day. So what kind of dog will be comfortable in a small apartment and content with me only being home half the time. Ofcourse I'll take it out for early morning and evening walks, and weekends are free too.

so /an/, HALP!

You dashed my dreams of a big dog holding my flip flops in his mouth when I come home from work, anonymous.

But now you can have a snake holding your flip flops for you!

this kind of dog would be ideal.

I used to always want a dog, but I always lived in apartments and stuff too. Then I moved in with somebody who has one, and I hate her annoying little attention-whoring poop-eating shrill-barking jealousy-laden ass.

Boston Terriers are pretty compatible with smaller livings spaces

LOL. A dog that looks as much like a wolf as possible for someone living in a tiny appartment who'll be away from the place all day. WHAT A GREAT IDEA.

1000 ft^2 isn't that small for an apartment...in fact, there are lots of houses that aren't even that big.

Try some breed compatability tests. There's A LOT more to think about when choosing a dog than how much it looks like a wolf.

Perhaps a Shiloh Sherperd or a Sarloos Wolfhound. Whatever you do, don't get a wolf/dog hybrid. They're almost always a mess of poor breeding and dominance/temperment issues.

I guess I should clarify the wolf thing. I don't have goofy hopes of a "wolf" companion that I can send to fight "enemies" or something. I meant a medium to large dog with a lean build and a long snout. I don't like short stubby dogs, or flat faced ones.

well, my bro has a sheapard husky cross that looks like a coyote.. but when he leaves her in his trailer the place gets ripped to shreds.
if you just want a wolf-like dog, troll the toy breeds. if you want a guard dog, get a house with a yard so it won't go nuts.

I have a weimaraner and live in an apartment around 900 sq feet, he does fine with me being at work all day, and with walks in the morning/evening. Not -very- wolf looking with floppy ears, but they are lean with that longer snout.
