Great dog breed or greatest dog breed?
>> Anonymous
Corgis would be awesome if they came in all sort of sizes. You know, same proportions and everything, just different sizes.

um corgis are annoying. they bark, bite, and are obnoxious. theyre legs are too stumpy and fat. the end.

And I'm fine with my dog biting. Better than it being a goddamn pussy.

I'm for making the Pembroke Welsh Corgi 4chan's official dog. You know, like how states in Amerikkka get to have official state birds, flowers and shit?

I used to like corgis, but the Internet's pathetic obsession with them has ruined the breed for me.

Good disposition, smart and a ton of fun to play with.

Only problem is that they have a little TOO much energy and will literally go insane if you are lazy and don't let him run at least 3 times a day.
>> Anonymous
>>192647
Yeah, people think they are a lap dog. They're not. They're a herder, they're pretty intelligent, and even the most mellow ones think they're little bad asses.

If they're not given enough play and exercise, they tend to get really nasty and barky.

>> Anonymous
the real question is, if they are herding dogs, what the hell were they supposed to herd while being that small? Roaming herds of hamsters?
>> tigerfeather !CrwtTbFNxQ
>>192773
They don't use intimidation like larger breeds do. They're quite mouthy, and will not hesitate to nip the heels of any uncooperative herd members.

I wonder what would happen if you cross bred a corgi with a great dane.

>> Anonymous
send the wife out to work the street corner and sell the kid to a human slavery ring, more than enough for a corgi from that
>> Anonymous
>>192773
Their smallness is actually a benefit in herding bigger animals, they won't get kicked so easily
>> Anonymous
>>192776

I don't know, but I would feel sorry for the female corgi in such a situation.
>> Anonymous
I want a husky..Too bad one costs 1400 USD here
>> Anonymous
>>192806

Only $150, spayed, vaccinated, etc etc from a shelter. Save a life today!

And believe me, your puppy will treat you no different than a rescued husky will. Most of the time they don't attach to one person like most dogs do. So they will be independent and aloof either way.

>>192769
Tell me about it.
We have an off leash park here, and when whenever he sees a group of other dogs/people/other animals, he slumps down looks like he's about to herd them somewhere. But he doesn't seem to know what he's doing since he just circles around them over and over.
>> Anonymous
>>192773
Cattle, actually. They're stumpy, but they're little tubes of muscle, and they're really quick, agile little bastards. People who say terriers have attitude have obviously never met Corgis. Ours is pretty much Joe Pesci in dog form.
>> Anonymous
>>192779

Here they cost almost $600 for a puppy. Maybe $500 if it's kinda ugly or boring.

I was thinking about getting a corgi when i got my own place, are they really as much dickheads as you guys make out? I've no problem with a dog being assertive, but yapping and biting strangers is just stupid.
>> Anonymous
>>192943
well excuse me for not wanting a dog that looks like every other geek's fuckin' dog. and don't get me started on labradors....
>> Anonymous
>>192953
Like the other anon said, corgis were developed to herd cattle all day. Herding takes *intelligence, speed, and stamina.* If you don't give a corgi several hours of exercise every single day, it's *natural intelligence, speed, and stamina* will manifest itself into annoying behaviors. If a corgi is biting guests it means the owner fucked up and is not giving the dog enough outlets for its herding instinct.

This is where the growing popularity of corgis ends up screwing over a lot dogs. They're not the breed for you if your day consists of going to work, then coming home to post on 4chan and watching anime.
>> Anonymous
>>192956
But they're soooo cute ;_;
>> Anonymous
>>192956

Let's say I'd go to work for 8 hours a day, 4 days in a week. The rest of the time I'd be at home, doing whatever, and yeah, maybe having fun with the dog. Would that satisfy its needs enough to prevent it from turning into a little devil?
>> Anonymous
get a shiba inu instead, they look similar to corgis, but are alot quieter and cleaner

there is no other dog...
>> Anonymous
>>193016I'd be at home, doing whatever, and yeah, maybe having fun with the dog.

There's no "maybe". You have to spend several hours a day exercise it mentally and physically. That means going to the dog park, long walks, activities such as obedience, frisby, herding trials... things that a corgi would enjoy. A half hour of fetch ain't gonna cut it. Corgis were created to be working animals, not lap dogs.

My friend has one of those. You can't have any fun with it because when it gets excited it just starts charging full speed around the house knocking shit over. And if you're not careful it'll knock you over too.

Probably at least 1.5-2 hours, twice a day. And my Corgi is a lazy fucker, so YMMV. When they get bored, they WILL find something to do. We're lucky, ours likes to take the screw caps off of plastic bottles when he gets bored. I've heard of them being much worse.

No, you fucking tard. The problem is this:

>>193016The rest of the time I'd be at home, doing whatever, and yeah, MAYBE having fun with the dog.

You want a corgi, yet you've already got it in your thick head that the best you can do for it is MAYBE play with it after work. I really hope you die in a car crash long before you have a chance at buying a dog.
>> Anonymous
My friend has gone through three Corgis.

First died of old age.

Second drowned in the backyard pool (make sure you cover your inground pools with reliable covers)

Third is still alive, but spends all his time outside in the backyard. When it gets inside, it's super-hyper and takes awhile to calm down.

I'd like to get a Corgi (plus a larger breed) one day and raise them together. I prefer having two dogs, as they serve as another being to keep the animals company when I'm not in.

Well jesus, did it ever occur to you that sometimes after work I have something else to do? A company party? A concert? Or maybe I have to fly out somewhere for a while? Admit it, there are some things you can't do consistently EVERY day. When I said maybe I didn't mean that spending time with the dog would be a twice-a-week kind of thing. I just meant there would be a day every now and then where I wouldn't have time, or would be too exhausted. And if you think ALL dogs need the constant attention like you say they do, then you need to explain the dog I already have. We walk her around the block every morning, and after that the house is fucking empty, and we come home and feed her and we watch TV. And she's fine. Ever owned a dog?
>> Anonymous
>>193947

Yeah, sure. I'm the owner of niggerhusky. He runs 4 miles every morning at almost full sprint (I can barely keep up on a bike) and again at night. Anytime I try to skip a day I end up with a very annoying as fuck dog. He's trained enough that he won't get destructive with me around but he will stand at the door and staaaaaaaaaarrreeee at me for hours. It annoys the fuck out of me.

So no, not all dogs can live like your lab does. Niggerhusky needs 8 miles of high speed running per day, a lot of play time, and so on. When left in the yard, he will dig to kill time and workout and chase birds and bugs around, and run back and forth in the back fence watching all the people and dogs pass by on the trail that runs behind my house. If I know I need to go somewhere at night, I would leave him at a doggy day care (fuck man, $30 every now and then is NOT that bad if it's as infrequent as you say).

The dog I had before that was much like yours. Easygoing lap dog that was fine with occasional walks.

I talked with the local daycare and in order to meet his exercise needs I need to pay an extra $20 per day for 4 extra walks during the day. He can walk all day long and not get tired. But this at least makes a dent.

I doubt Corgis will be anywhere near that active, but my point is don't expect your dog to be the same as the old one.
