Identify This? Anonymous
This huge thing crawled up my leg last night. What the hell is it?

Ewww! It crawled up your leg, and you're still sane? I'd have jumped out my window in revulsion.

EWWWWWWW the pen crawled up your leg!

1. It's just a beetle. Get over it.

2. If you want an identification, tell us where the hell it comes from. It's a very generic looking sort of bug, it resembles several species, at least in shape, and it would help if I know for certain if I'm even attributing it to the right hemisphere.

Megasoma actaeon/elephas, Goliathus goliathus/regius, some of world's biggest beetles, but still no match for a Titanus giganteus.
Reaches sizes about 17cm.

Since there's already a thread for this sort of thing, anyone know what the hell this is?

Location is California coast, behavior includes hovering around slowly and stupidly, sometimes landing upside down, repeatedly and loudly flying in to the garage door, and dying if/when they can get inside.
