Hey /an/ what does one need to legally own a fox? Do they need a license of some type?

Every couple of weeks or so, someone asks the same fucking retarded question, and every couple of weeks, they get the same answer: That one picture of that fox killing the shit out of a couch or chair or something.

I think you're slow, so I'll tell you straight up: It's a bad idea.

Sorry, some people must have missed the memo. The internet as a whole didn't know it had to be in that thread, at that time.

Do you see how many other threads there are? Go find somewhere else to be!

Couldn't tell ya OP. I didn't even think it was legal.

Fox urine smells worse than skunk spray. Also, someone post that fucking pic of the fox shredding the couch.

Most US states require a wildlife hobby permit for native species, which is about fifty to a hundred bucks. I'm not sure about Canada but I once saw a man with a fox on a leash in Toronto (which I'm pretty sure wasn't legal). A fennec would be a much better pet.

Seriously, if you had to ask the Interwebs for legality issues, you're probably not ready for one.

<- This is the only response ever needed in an "Can I has fox?" thread. Any other response at all positive or negative is full of fail and AIDS.

I for onw wouldnt want a wild scavenger animal as a pet. Also, they are wild animals. But sure, if you want one just spend a few hundred years domesticating foxes and come back and ask if its a good idea

You must be a niggra? Go back to KFC....

It just depends on if you are willing to put in the time, effort, and money into owning a fox. Just like any exotic collector, from venomous snakes and alligators, to just about any other exotic, you need to do your fuuking research on said species, their housing and husbandry.

I have a licence for large cats, but I don't have one now, since it's too much to deal with between working on the house, and at work. Smart people, people who actually give a shit about their perspective pets think ahead as to whether they can care for the animal or not.

And, you pretty much need to be as dedicated in to having an exotic, as you would for having a child.

Good night.

It doesn't take hundreds of years. Just something like 40 to 50 years, thanks to the quick maturation of fox young. But you do need a lot of space and money to keep all the sub-domestic breeders, even if you kill and sell the skins of all the wilder ones.

They take very few generations to domesticate if you breed for being calm and cuddly. The tamer they get the more their tails curl. It only takes like a dozen or so generations.

I think it depends on where you live if it would or would not be good to have a fox as a pet. Keep in mind that they also stink. A lot.

I'm surprised nobody has brought up the silver fox taming yet.

Tame a fox, what do you get? A dog. So just get a dog with big, cute ears.

Well, maybe if you understand nothing about biology. Otherwise they're still foxes.

Why would you want a fox? They are disgusting, disease-ridden vermin.

Take off the rose-tinted goggles and stop masturbating to furryporn.

A license depending on where you are (illegal period in some locations) as well as a myriad of patience, experience with more docile creatures (cats, dogs, feral cats, feral dogs). On top of that you probably are going to need more land than your average backyard dog simply because the fox doesn't as easily adjust to the fact that it no longer needs to maintain a large territory for food. Walking the creature on a regular basis is more than needed. You will also need to be sure that there is a well trained medical professional that will not loose his license should the animal need medical treatment. This is not a leave at home animal either, in most cases the fox is given an above average outdoor enclosure in which it can stay while not on the property or indoors (and monitored, don't leave it at home alone in other words.) They have an abnormally foul oder and love to dig. Be prepared for neighbors (if any) to throw a hassle and blame you and attempt to have your animal seized on a regular basis. Otherwise they are just as lovable as a dog. inb4bullshit about non standard animals being tamed.
