Ferret question Anonymous
I'll keep it short, simple, and to the point.

Do ferrets really NEED to have bedding (hardwood shavings and the like) in thier cage, or does the plastic bottom serve them well enough? I ask because my ferrets seem to love digging into thier bedding and scattering it all over the corner thier cage is kept in, and I'm getting a bit tired of cleaning it.

I love my ferrets and of course, if the bedding is better for them, I'll just put up with cleaning it up. What are your thoughts, /an/imals?

No, ferrets need a litter box though.

Thay do like to tear things up, though. I have no bean bags anymore. Or envelopes. Or plastic bags.

I've never had a ferret, but i think i read this somewhere. Two sets of old towels. Use one, wash the other.

Ferrets love to run across laptops! And we give ours shaving to play in and she uses the litterbox... But we bathe her 2-3 times a week to keep the smells away.

you're doing it wrong, dumbass. bathing them more than about once every 2 weeks or so makes their stinky oil glands work harder to replenish the oil they naturally have in their hair, and it's not good for them and will make them stink harder.

OP here.

So the shavings aren't needed as bedding, then? Cool, I can stop worrying about having to clean it every week or two. I'll toss in some old towels we have instead and just run them through the wash every week or so, it'll be much more managable.

I've only ever bathed my ferrets three times in the year I've owned them. Twice was for fleas, and once because I took them outside and they had a grand old time digging in the dirt. I don't think it's necessary to bathe them unless you're dealing with fleas or dirtyness.

Um dude, you don't bathe them that much, that'll hurt her.
They have stuff to put in their food and or water to make them not smell so much but I can't promise that'll work.
But don't bathe her that much....

Cedar shaving are deadly to ferrets, don't use them. Go to the pet store and ask their advice.

By the way, this is Lakota, my ferret.
