So /an/, I've got a problem. We were cutting down this tree by our driveway and 2 baby squirrels fell out. One died but the other is still alive and seems to be uninjured.

I've never really had experience with squirrels. I've been feeding it scalded whole cow's milk with vitamin E in it and keeping it next to a bottle of warm water.

Does anyone have any tips or ideas on its age? My near-by animal shelters wont take wild animals so it appears we're stuck with taking care of it for a while.

Pic related, it's the squirrel.

Oh yeah and I almost forgot to mention, its eyes haven't opened yet.

Kill it. It's the humane thing to do.

dont listen to them, he has a chance i had a friend that raised one from a naked baby, call a local vet they will give you a list of things to feed it, they may also know of a wildlife rescue or someone who fosters orphaned wild animals

if it seems like its starting to suffer then u may want to put it down, but until then dont just kill the baby it deserves a try after its home was destroyed

you can be arrested for that

the shelter might not have taken it but they should be able to provide you with the number of the closest wildlife reabilitator around.

You can care for it yourself but your suposed to go get a permit for it.

As for the care. Make sure you give it a heat pad at night. EVERY night even after its eye have opened. Get some baby formula and heat that up when u feed it.

squirrels can be tamed and kept as pets. but you should look online and get in contact with your department of natural reasources to obtain a permit

We're looking into the wildlife rehabilitation thing. I have a cousin who does that for a living but she can't take the squirrel in because she's pregnant, so she gave us some numbers to call.

Don't use cow's milk. Why does everyone always go for cow milk with sugar/vitamins/protein. Go for Elbilac puppy milk. It's easy to find at any pet store.

I ended up calling someone who knew how to take care of squirrels. They took the little guy in and didn't have any trouble with him.

Puppy/kitten milk and a syringe. Should be at any local pet store.

I used to work in wildlife rehabilitation, and most vets are supposed to give you contact information for them.

The baby has a chance, I myself have successfully raised a brood from pinkies to adults, however I did so with an extensive knowledge of their care and keeping.

Call/internet search around for a center that will take them in, they have a much better chance.

Squirrels can actually be domesticated from the first generation unlike most wild animals. You can find plenty of sites on how t take care of them if you just google it.

I raised a squirrel from about that same age, actually. For some reason it was abandoned by it's mother or else the mother was killed. Either way it was crying it's little head off for three days straight and I managed to coax it out with squirrely noises and a rake (it was in the tree).
So, I put it in a laundry basket with towls and blankets. My mom fed it bitch's milk as well as some odd blended food she made for baby animals.

He did just fine. We had a pet squirrel for about a year who lived in a giant bird cage at night and our house in the day. They're really easy to raise.

Okay, happy endings tiem

We took it outside this morning and the mom found it. I really didn't think its mom would come for it as we tried yesterday but she did and now I don't have to worry about it.
