So my bird has a heart problem, did some research on

http://www.cockatiels.org/articles/vet/obesity.html

"Many seeds that are fed to birds contain in excess of 30% fat, and include sunflower, safflower, rape, niger, hemp, and peanut."

It turns out he's sick because he eats to much of sunflower seeds and peanuts.

stop feeding your bird rape, nigger, and weed.

Despite the fact that damn near every book, magazine, and web-site on captive parrots points out the importance of a proper diet and the need to avoid fatty seeds the vast majority of birds in captivity will die prematurely thanks to long-term problems caused by malnutrition.

This website has really good information. Also try their forum to get specific help for your bird.

Balanced diet and exercise is the key. Give your bird Evian water, it's rich in magnesium, and it has a nice magnesium and calcium ratio. Tap water slowly kills everything especially small animals (chlorine, fluoride, etc.)

Here are a couple good cereals to try:

Kellogg's All Bran "Bran Buds"
Nature's Path "Smart Bran"

Never feed peanuts and limit sunflower seeds. After pouring out the vitaseed you can skim a lot of the sunflower seeds off with your hand. These bran cereals will limit the amount of fat they digest just like humans.

Note: they only like it while it's still crunchy.

Most cockatiels don't like fruit but love Kale, Brussel Sprouts, Carrots, Corn.. After your bird loses weight you can occasionally treat it to almonds.
