Fuuck, I haven't even seen one in real life either. I'm dying to see some. I'm in fucking Toronto, we don't have shit here.

We do, you just have to know when and where to look.

I saw more of them this year than I ever have before. I do live in the middle of their ideal habitat though.

I live in southern Oregon, and for the first time in my life I saw fireflies flying around this year. It was during a Peter Frampton concert, lol. I used to find glow worms in the ground sometimes when I was a kid, but never saw the adults.

due to habitat loss, urbanization and pollutants, there are many species that were once common are now diminishing in numbers or threatened with extinction.fireflies habit quite a few places geographically across the globe and i would believe a decrease in their numbers in certain places are maybe due to enviromental changes in temperature and other problems in the eco-system that supports them.

When I was young, I went to grandma's house with a bug jar and caught about 5. I wanted to show them to everyone inside so I opened the jar...

Hilarity did not ensue.

I saw a ton of them in western PA this summer. They kept getting into my apartment.

It was awsome seeing them getting manipulated like that.

I haven't seen any fireflies in about 10 years, but last week I was out front and saw a couple of them flying around my van.

How bright do they get? I've never seen one.

It probably varies between species, but it's amazingly bright for something so tiny. Where I live (Wisconsin) they all come out at once, usually after it rains, and it's one of the coolest things nature's ever done.

If you catch one in a jar, it'll stop flashing. As a kid, that taught me more about life than anything I learned in school. I can't imagine growing up without them.

This is sadder than Graveyard of fireflys.

Because this time they really mean it.
