I've never seen Zebra Finches on /an/.
Don't people know about their awesomeness?

We once had 3 males. Well, they tend to be very active and shit on everything in your apartment if you let them out, but their songs are brillant.
They have this standard "CHEEP", but sometimes they suddenly burst out in an individual song that sounds extremly great and stays the same during their whole lifetime (you can distinguish them by this song). Can get loud as hell, but I really enjoyed the time we had them.

Well, the end is rather tragic. We had to give them back to the store from where we get them (don't know the reasons anymore).
This store burned down with all birds in it, sad but true.

These things are so cute, I always have to go watch them at pet stores. I love how they just hop around while beeping.
I've always wanted like a whole flock of them, but they don't seem like the kind of pets you can really interact with beyond watching

Same here. I would try to hold them and pet them all the time if I got any.
Plus I would want like eighty of them xD

I'm another one who can't resist watching them while at pet stores. I wish I could have a room full of them. I've also had a professor who is completely obsessed with them.

I had a zebra finch.

I heard you can train them to sit on your finger but this was something I never had any care for, I just liked having the little bird in my room.

There isn't really much you can do with a zebra finch but I have always been pretty good at doing impressions of various things so I could imitate the call of the birds.

It was really cool having a pet you could interact with by sound, I just start a series of beeps and would see how it responded. I had moved away from home to attend college but I was shocked to find out the poor little creature had died. It was actually kind of a knee jerk to the soul, the thing was obviously very attached to me.

Neat little creatures, though.

I had some of these guys a few years ago. It's true, they're not too keen on human interaction, but they're really pleasant to have around. They're active, and the songs from the males can be really beautiful. Pretty lousy parents, though that may just be the batch we had.

Also, they would all go nuts and start chattering when they heard the default Nokia midi ringtone.
