Gouramis are cool, I've got a 10 gallon tank with 3 in it. And they have awesome antenna thingies. They look pretty exotic, and they don't get incredibly big if you get the right kind, just don't get a pink one.

If you wan't something a bit more challenging, apistogammas (dwarf chichlids). Will spawn if cared well for. Couple them with some tetras (perhaps cardinal and rummy nose) and corydoras, and you have a nice south american biotope.

24 hours?
the filter needs two weeks for the bacteria to develop.

Yeah, they need at the very least 1 week before you put fish in. Ive seen alot of products that claim you can put fish in the next day, but I wouldnt trust them.

What kind of filtering system do you have on there. From my experiances, undergravel filters sucks major balls, and those hang off the edge waterfall filters and powerjet filster are VASTLY superior.

its a hangover waterfall filter.

They're probably gonna want more cover if you're trying to get them to spawn.

Cichlids are bitches, too, so the tetras will need somewhere to hide.

Might wanna add the tetras first....let the bacteria build up with them. There's artificial cyclers you can buy, too.
