My Cat is a bitch and treats me Like shit Anonymous
I hate my cat. I paid for her, I care for her I am sweet and kind, I've never hurt her, I only discipline her with a water bottle if she scratches up furniture but she doesn't learn. She keeps clawing the crap out of the lounge and I go to spray her and she runs away and then waits until I go away and starts scratching whatever she wants again. I went up to her just before after 'attempting' to spray her and she made a really weird hiss at me, like a quack + a hiss it was odd. She's so mean and refuses to be affectionate with me like she used to when I first got her. I am starting to think I want to just drop her off to the pound because I am sick of wasting money on a rude mean cat who acts like a fucking princess
>> Anonymous
cats need something to scratch on, or their nails will grow long and dangerous
>> Anonymous
She has a post which I have put right next to the lounge, at first I would pick her up and put her paws on the scratching post so she would get the idea, but now I think she claws the furniture because it annoys me.
>> Anonymous
cats are smart enough to know that they're doing something that irritates you, and sometimes they are arrogant enough to keep doing it

throw that bitch in the pound

This is why dogs are better than cats.

My cat is a cunt too. When kids come over I can't let them near her or she will rape the kids and eat their souls.
>> Anonymous
declaw the bitch. teach her to fuck with your furniture
>> Anonymous
Is de-clawing expensive/cruel? I've thought about it since i've gotten her but I wondered if it might be seen as harsh like when people would cut the tails off their dobermen's etc (I think getting rid of the tail is illegal now actually I am not sure)
>> Anonymous
Declaw her. Leave her hind claws, because she can use those for defense. It's not cruel, I've had it done to both of my cats, and they both love me. I love them.
>> Anonymous
I've realized declawing, at least from what I've seen, involves removing the tips of their fingers, so to speak.

I've never declawed as a result, and have simply trimmed nails instead. However, even then cats can cause damage if they're determined enough. My ex's cat ripped up some leather seats even with trimmed claws... So... It is likely the only option you seem to have if you want to keep her.

Just... Do NOT declaw all four feet. I've met two such cats and they both love to draw blood with their teeth.
>> Anonymous
Use an airhorn. She can't run away from that.

Make sure you have something else around for her to scratch though, cats need to scratch something.
>> Anonymous
Declawing is illegal in civilized countries. However, you probably live in the US, so that shouldn't be a problem.
>> Anonymous
I live in convictland :< She used to love her scratching post, it has little fun things dangling on it and she used to play with it all the time. She was injured recently and I spent a lot of time with her nursing her back to health. I thought we had some kind of bonding so to speak but now that she has fully recovered shes just a bitch again. She also sometimes tries to climb onto me if shes bored which hurts A LOT, she digs her claws into my skin in an attempt to climb onto my lap >:(
>> Anonymous
don't declaw, trim the nails.
>> Anonymous
anyone know if this is good stuff?

what can I trim the nails with? :S I don't want to go at her with some nail clippers and find out i've just screwed her up

there's special claw trimmers you can buy at pet stores. They look kind of like wire strippers

Found this on a website:
"Cats don't understand physical punishment. In addition to it being wrong to hit your cat, punishment simply doesn't work and is likely to make your situation worse. Clever though Kitty is about many things, she won't understand that you're punishing her for scratching the couch. She will only compute that sometimes when you catch her she is treated badly. This may make her insecure and stimulate her to scratch more or develop other undesirable behavior problems.

Eventually you will break the trust and security that is the basis for your cat's relationship with you, and you will find it very difficult to catch her for any reason at all.

Cats have excellent memories and hold serious grudges."

http://www.catscratching.com

There's stuff there about alternate solutions to declawing (and why declawing is a bad idea), reasons cats scratch at stuff, etc. Looks like it could be useful (speaking as someone who knows fuck all about cats aside from the fact that they don't like being dressed up and pushed around on their backs in prams... We had 2 when I was a kid, lol.)

rub the scratchpost down with catnip, and then spray your clawed furniture with vinegar.

its just that simple

wash the vinegar out and replace is with an awesome fragrance like hazelnut when she regularly uses the scratchpost.

You have to get her to NOT want to scratch the furniture. You are a human being after all, you dont have to make her do anything, just outsmart her. Make it so that scratching your furniture looks like the most unenjoyable thing imaginable. If you reinforce with negative feedback (noise, water spray) make sure she doesnt see that its YOU spraying her or she might think that YOU are the bad one.

Its like, if a cat jumped up on a stove and got burnt, that cat would never jump on the stove ever again, in fact it would probably be quite difficult to get the cat on the counter or even near a stove after that.

What I do/have done is absolutely hilarious. I got one of those little homosapian robots that are remote controlled and put it in front of my couch. Whenever my cat use to run over and starts to scratch the robot lets out a loud yell and I control it to chase her down. Its very shiny and pretty loud with red eyes that light up, so its pretty scary. She doesnt scratch anymore though I have seen her stare often at the couch and look around. She just ends up laying on the couch.

Its not too traumatizing or anything, I've seen her pat and poke the robot when it isnt active. You could probably do the same with a remote control firetruck or something.

I know this sounds weird, but cover up the areas she scratches with something she won't like, such as an extremely strong odour (perfumes) and stuff she wouldn't want to touch (eg synthetic "slime").

She will associate scratching the furniture with the weird smell and the disgusting stuff on her claws, and will eventually stop doing it.
>> Anonymous
I don't buy that physical punishment doesn't work. We never beat are cats, but we did give them a smack on the rump when they would scratch the couch or jump on the furniture. They were all well behaved and affectionate too. They still jumped on the counter and scratched the couch, but only when they didn't think anyone was paying attention.
>> Anonymous
De clawing is really traumatic for cats, and as mentioned they develop a pension for biting in defense, and bite very often because they are insecure about not having a way t defend themselves.
>> Anonymous
>>223675
>but only when they didn't think anyone was paying attention.
that's exactly why it doesn't work
>> MiMi
>>223629

Sure, they're great.
But if you're handy with a hammer and nails and can find some wood that'll work, just ask a carpet store for 'scraps' and make one yourself.

Sisal rope works fabulously too.

Double sided stickytape. Seriously, they absolutely hate it, and it doesn't look/smell terrible on your furniture either.
>> Anonymous
Go the mean approach and put small tacks and stuff in your couch, like needles, when she goes to put her paws on the couch to scratch, she will stab herself in the paw, thus stopping her from touching the couch...same theory as a kid hugging a cactus, if after the first time of getting their arms full of needles they dont learn that it hurts and should stop hugging it, they are retarded
>> Anonymous
>>223849

Oh gawd, I remember when I left a bunch of double sided sticktape half peeled and blu-tak for a craft project, and my cat got to it...

... In the end, I had to take her to a DOG groomer.

>>223675
Put ductape, stickyside out, for a while on the areas she scratches. Cats don't like it. It's easier than punishing them, since the water bottle mostly teaches them to be wary of you. They'll still scratch when you don't see them.

Hello, you own a fucking cat. You want affection, buy a dog. Most cats have varying degrees of nastiness, and you have a real piece of shit.

Either drop it off at a pound or toss it into the river/pond/lake/ocean.

Anyone with half a brain will go for declawing. What do you think is worse for a cat, decawing it or having to basicly punish it over and over?
>> Anonymous
>>224841
What's wrong with what I did?
>> Anonymous
Your cat is so mean because you are WEAK. Cats will walk all over you, show it whos boss, dont play mind games with it (cause it will with you), and be kind (treats). You will soon have a gentle cat. Cats act like their owners btw.
>> Anonymous
Pick the bitch up and throw her against a wall, she'll learn her lesson.
>> Anonymous
>>223627

What are you, a retard? You want affection from a cat but when she climbs on you lap you throw her down? No wonder she's acting like a bitch. The biggest compliment my cat can give is to climb on to someone's lap, curl up and fall asleep. It shows that they trust you. My cat likes to knead on me too when I'm holding him, it hurts if I'm not wearing thick clothes but it's not like he realizes hes hurting me, he's just being friendly. Put up with it or atleast don't get mad, just put her down and keep petting her when she's on the floor.
>> Anonymous
god you're a terrible person, the way you're talking, I'm just hoping your are just frustrated and don't really mean what you say, simply because you are going around things the wrong way

you see the cat is associating YOU with the water squirting, not the couch scratching. That's why she hisses and is mean, because in her mind YOU are being mean to HER.

God cats are intelligent, but not intelligent enough to understand complicated consequence, (as in administered discipline as consequence to an act) they have the intelligence similiar to a young toddler. When you were a toddler did your mother smack you for wetting the bed? Because this is pretty much how you are treating your cat :(

Dogs, and other animals (even SOME cats) understand a very simple form of dicipline, as in 'doing this' equals 'smack!' equals 'hurt', BUT most animals will simply wonder why you are hurting them. And wouldn't you get anxious and defensive if you believed your 'parent' was hurting you for no reason??

And as another person has said, declawing is essentially removing the tips of the cats fingertips. If the cat eventually trusts you (which will take time and effort, and changing of ways) their nails are easily clipped with normal, everyday human nail clippers, nothing special.

Cats don't only scratch because their nails are long, but also because it feels good to them. Why not get her a scratching post rubbed down with some catnip, and scratch it with your hands to show her that she scratches the POST and not the couch. If she starts to scratch the couch you just pick her up and take her to the post without any fuss. (Again, like a toddler and like toilet training)

You will have to have a lot of patience, it is not worth an animal being put to death because of being misguided. When in doubt ask yourself how would you teach a young toddler, as that is a cat's mental capacity, nothing more.

It's us humans who make life so complicated

good luck xx

Haha, bloody brilliant! :)

OP, if that's the attitude you have towards your cat, then you don't deserve her.

Use your head for once- cats are dominant, and they'll act like a princess whether you like it or not. Act like a responsible pet owner and properly train your animal instead of taking the easy way out. Your cat ain't going out of it's way to piss you off, it's just doing what any cat would naturally do in that situation.

Respond in a way she can understand. Make it clear that the couch is your territory by growling or hissing when she gets too close.

just fucking declaw all 4 feets. i did it to my 2 cats, and they behave perfectly fine. no biting, no nothing. no problems with litter box either. but now theyre allowed out of the basement so they are much happier. people go through worse pain for plastic surgery, cats can handle a little declaw. and if they didnt want it to happen, they should tell us to stop doing it.
>> Anonymous
...Has anyone mentioned the plastic things you put over their claws?

YOU DON'T HAVE TO DECLAW, JUST PUT THESE ON.

Yeah these are way better. Not only do you not have to declaw them and risk consequences which could be a HUGE pain in the ass(like it being too painful to dig in the litterbox so they shit all over the floor), but those bright nailcaps look adorable too.
