My American Eskimo puppy won't stop chewing things.
She chews everything. Seriously, everything. She's lost four whole teeth now, two of which are the canines on her lower jaw.
What can I do about this? Is it serious? Should I take her to a vet, or let her grow out of it, or..will her mouth heal?

I'll tell you what to do... you appreciate the irony that a canine lost its canines. Zing.

This is not helping.

If she loses too many teeth she might turn into a bear.

...seriously though, are you sure they aren't her puppy teeth? You do know that dogs aren't born with their adult teeth, right? If they're her adult teeth then yes, there's something wrong.

You want help, huh? Well, I hope I can HELP you to realize that your dog sucks. Zing.

I suspected, but didn't know. She's only about 10 weeks old, so I guess it's puppy teeth, yah. Cheers anon.

Nah, but seriously, she's just a puppy. Puppies lose their teeth. No worries, chum.

Giving them rubber or nylabones straight from the freezer to chew on sometimes helps with the pain of erupting teeth.

Cool, thanks. I guess she'll just have to be uncomfortable for a while. Puts my mind at rest, at least.

I'll try this, I bought her two today, actually. Thanks,

Some people swear by frozen washcloths and things for teething pups, but I think all that does is teach a dog to chew cloth, which is counterproductive in the long run.

I do sometimes take a puppy kong (the softer kind) fill it with peanut butter and freeze it.

Otherwise, yes, your pup is teething. Save the teeth if you find them; it's fun to look back on these days once your dog is grown. And don't be alarmed if you find teeth in his poop. Pups often swallow their baby teeth and no arm done.

Re chewing on people, it's natural-- this is how dogs play among themselves. It's especially common during teething. But now is the time to stop this behavior. I always take the position that I don't play with dogs that bite me-- we're playing, they bite, I say "no biting" and stand up and do something else.

If you are consistent, a pup will learn that playbiting a human is not a good thing.

Meant "no harm done", of course.

A friend of mine has a young dog and when she was teething they fed her frozen baby carrots. The dog loved em. You can try it. Otherwise chewy nylabones and rawhides. Dont over do the rawhides they can get stuck in the belly and make there belly ache.

Cool.
