I'm thinking of building an aviary outside. Shouldnt be too hard, metal mosquito window netting with a frame and a gazebo style top with a hinged door.

There are things I should worry about? birdlice for one, maybe coons breaking in and eating my birdies? What about the bottom? Should I floor it or just use a dirt floor?

enclosed is one of my birdies, who isnt going to be in the aviary because she's tiny and depressive and I'm going to be keeping her in my room with me :3

Depending on what speces you intend to keep, you may need to have some kind of structural mesh in addition to the mosquito netting.

Even metal window screen is fairly weak. If you have a larger bird, or something with a strong beak and feet (pretty much any kind of parrot or nut-eating bird), they can destroy metal window screening.

Don't forget to incorporate some kind of shade in at least part of the aviary. You don't want the birds stuck in sunlight all the time.

And watch out for raptors... They just love aviary birds for nom noms

I clipped her wings about a year ago and she's been bummed out ever since. Very apathetic.

Hrm. I dont know anything I could use as structural netting. I guess I'll have to run out to Lowe's or something.

There's basically two things you could do. You could use a heavier (though still escape-proof) mesh, like "hardware cloth". That's basically like window screen but with coarser mesh and thicker wire.

OR, you could still use window screen, but back it up with something to give it a bit more strength, such as chicken wire.
