Okay, this is a bit late, but I promised /an/ a photo of my cat's paw. So here's one of Lobster's, the fat polydactyl cat, paws.
Something is wrong with your cat's paw.

is that 6 toes?
This thread needs moar vag
its quite normal for cats to have 6 toes. my g/f's cat has 3 paws with 6 toes and one paw with 5... its weeiiirrddd
...soooo, do mods even come to /an/ anymore?
>>75659I wonder if that's an atavism or just a random toe-multiplying mutation.>>75714Apparently not.
>>75659So is it normal or weird?
>>75720It's weird looking, but not all that uncommon.
>>75720It's awesome, that's what it is. Can your cat use the extra one on the side like a thumb?
Polydactyly isn't all that uncommon in cats. It's a recessive gene, so it just doesn't show up very often.Unfortunately, polydactyl cats do not get the added awesomeness that is the opposable thumb.
Thumbcats have a regular number of toes but an extended first toe.
>>75786Polydactyly is actually a dominant trait...
The problem with polydactyly is that usually the extra fingers don't work properly or at all. It's really rare for them to be just fine and work like normal fingers.
Our cousin's black cat has huuuuge front paws with many toes, it's actually amazing how it can seemingly wrap it's many toes around things to get a better grip. The way it grabs string is just creepy.
actually, breeders consider polydactaly a good (for some reason) quality, so they try to breed cats with it.
