Sharks aren't mammals, as Anon was requesting. In addition, sun bears live nowhere near a desert, although I wouldn't doubt that a member of the ursidae order could adapt to a desert life. The long-cat is quite the fascinating idea, particularly for its fat storage. I would agree with usind a xenarthran, insectivore, or a cheiropterid as the new species because of the abundance of insects and the relative deficiency of plants in deserts. Herbivorous desert mammals aren't too difficult to find nowadays, anyway.
