What IS this thing? It looks like a crossbreed of a pig and a cow, but the face just looks too human to me.
Or is this just another result of a redneck's 'happy time'?

A sculpture.

It's part of an exhibition called "We are family" by the sculptor Patricia Piccinini. As for what it's supposed to be, I have no idea. It seems like a hybrid of human, dog and horse features.

Here's another sculpture from the exhibition, with clearly recognizable human-meerkat hybrids.

Dumb bastard, that's just an artists rendering of human and dog gene splicing. >:/

i suppose there can be no beauty without the ugly...

Am I the only one who'd get one of these if they were real?

The structure they're sitting on is made of leather, like that used in car seats or furniture, but shaped like nature, abstract. The leather structure, much like the subjects themselves, are a cross between the human and the wild.

Also, note the shadow in the background.

This is titled "The Young Family."
It is supposed to be a cross between a human and a pig.

It's important to note that most of these sculptures portray mothers with infants. Mixed with our disgust, perhaps we (and by "we" I mean everyone except for 4fags) feel empathy and relativity with these ugly, odd creatures, who express emotions and desires just like us.

"Still Life With Stem Cells"

All of Patricia's pieces in "We Are Family" are supposed to hit a nerve and provoke questions. What is a human? What is an animal? What is alive, and what is simply an inanimate object? When does one species become another? What rights do animals deserve? What rights do humans deserve? What about the rights of things whose lives are ambiguous and debatable, such as stem cells and embryos?

These are the questions we face today. And while we individually may be absolutely sure of the right answer in our minds, perhaps by seeing these sculptures, it invokes emotions and thoughts that further contradict our opinions- empathy, disgust, fear, fascination, humor.

But in the end, we don't really know what the right answer is...

This is why this sort of art doesn't work in 4chan. Anonymous does not feel empathy, nor does he feel disgust.

A miserable little pile of secrets. Lurk Moar.
I see these as what furries would look like if they were real.

I think these fuckers are some of the most adorable things I've ever seen (facefucker excluded), and I'm not even trolling. If they were real I'd run some sort of shelter for them, like an orphanage for malformed flesh-monsters.

Before the stock market crash of 2001, there was a LOT of biomedical investment and projects, and talk of making pigs genetically compatible enough with humans to supply replacement organs. I think that's exactly where this artist is coming from.

I understand what the artist is trying to say and portray but these things are just creepy and look like they belong on /x/.

This type of modern art certainly beats stuff like Joseph Bois smearing butter into the corner of a room or Gunther Von Hagen plastinating dead people. AKA, braindead modern art.
It took skill to make these creepy sculptures. If the artist made those himself then he wins just for skills.
