I found this snake on my doorstep, I live in Raleigh NC, here are some pics to help me identify this snake.

pretty sure its a copperhead, at any rate its poisonous so dont touch it

doesn't matter

has poison either way, just be sure to catch and release it far away if you have any petz/little kids.

i live in raleigh and do my masters research on snakes in urban populations in raleigh and cary. It is a copperhead, from the looks of it it is probably a subadult. It is venomous (the only venomous snake you will find in raleigh) so don't try to handle it. either just get a stick and shoo it back into the brush or let it do its thing. they aren't agressive and are fairly docile as long as you don't mess with them.

chances are you won't see him again. and to be honest, raleigh has a large population of copperheads, they are the most numerous snake i find. they are very well suited for urban life and pose very little danger. please don't go getting all your neighbors in a fright because all that will happen is they start killing all snakes on site. 95% of people in this county couldn't tell a copperhead from a ringneck
