Hey /an/. This is my little cat. She has a habit of laying on chests and licking lips for upwards of ten minutes. It leaves my lips raw and hurting but it's so cute it's hard to throw her off. Why does she do this? I thought maybe she thinks my lip is a nipple but she doesn't need on my chest either. Also, she's about 9 months now, and I'm wondering when she'll stop peeing on the bed (if ever). We got her Feliway and that works like a charm, but when the month is up, she goes back to peeing on the bed. Thanks for help

Are you using any product whose taste the cat might enjoy? Lip balm maybe? If not, she's probably somehow trying to groom you (a friendly gesture), but for some reason concentrating all her attention to your lips. Who knows of the workings of a feline mind?

How long has she been peeing on the bed? When did it start? When does she pee on the bed? Do you have anything that contais down on the bed (this seems to attract some cats), or is there any other pattern to the peeing? You usually have to do some "research" to figure out what makes the cat choose to pee on the bed.

about the licking- I don't use any lipbalm or anything, she does it to anyone though. She licks our roommate and anyone who holds her. She's laying on my chest as I type licking me, purring away.
peeing- we got a new bed recently and she peed on the old one 5 times in a day once. The peeing started when she turned 6 months and began being in heat. since then, the only thing that stops her from peeing on the bed is the feliway. I don't want to get rid of it because it stops the urination, but it costs 20 dollars a month and I'm a student living off my parents with no job of my own. I doubt there is any down on the bed. Picture related, sorry for bad camera phone quality.

Very pretty kitty.

To discourage the peeing on the bed, I recommend feeding her on the bed. Cat's don't like it when their food and litter boxes are close together. Make sure she has a litter box all to herself on the other side of the house somewhere in a quiet place.

When you're away from the house, shut your door to your room so she can't get in there unless you're with her. Also don't leave dirty clothes or wet towels lying on the bed.

As for the licking, no idea. My cat used to suckle on my earrings when she was a kitten (sleepers, not dangly ones).

aww BAGCAT :3 She has her own litterbox, she is an only kitty. I never thought of the food on bed thing, sounds a little strange because I'm on a laptop so I sit on the bed all day with it. We always shut our door when we're not home. I've woken up, left the bedroom with my boyfriend still asleep in the bed, and she's come in and peed right on him. She's done that a few times. I find it weird that she'd mark her territory ON a person like that

You could feed her on a stand right next to the bed, I guess, but I'd be more inclined to do it RIGHT ON TOP of where she's repeatedly done it. If you feed her wet food and dry food, you could let her eat all she wants while it's on the bed, then move it to a stand so you have room for 4channing.

Also, change your doona/blankets so they don't smell of her pee, and/or wash them with a lavender or citrus-scented wool wash.

And you know, it may just take a while for her hormones to settle down after being fixed so she might grow out of it. But I think it's a good idea to encourage her to find somewhere less icky for toileting.

Oh, and is she an indoors cat? If she's not, she may be meeting other cats outside and getting anxious/territorial, hence peeing in odd places. Indoor cats are the way to go, IMO.

aww bagcat grown up? also lol at your my little ponies. Anyway, she's indoor only, and I don't feed her wet food a lot because she only eats a little of it and wastes the rest. Sadly we don't have a night stand. I guess I'll just pay the 20 dollars a month and wait for her hormones to fix. She won't pee on the bed forever right? And yes, I immediately wash the soiled sheets and blankets

Even though she cleans her butt with her tongue?

So... What, you come to /an/ for advice, I give you good and simple advice, and you're too lazy to implement it? Nip this behavioural problem in the bud and it'll make you and your cat happier, because she won't get roused on all the time and you won't have to do the laundry so much.

Just put the food on the floor then when you're using the bed, or find somewhere else to use your computer for a while. Put it on a crate, christ, the possibilities are endless.

Are you sure it's not actually your bf pissing himself?

It doesn't even have to be a food bowl, it can just be a water bowl. I suggest you lock your cat up in the bathroom for a few days while she learns how to use a litterbox 100% of the time.

Also, the rule is to have 1 litterbox more than the number of your cats - if she's your only cat, you should have two litterboxes. Cats are extremely finicky about their litterboxes, such as the amount of litter, whether it goes to China (don't ask), when was the last time you cleaned it... and will choose to pee on the bed or other places if it's considered subpar.

Another thought for op to try is putting tinfoil on the problem areas (obviously while you're sitting on the bed you can move it.)

Don't be afraid to give her a little scolding tap on the nose when she's licking your face. Discipline (and reward for being a good kitty) will help her learn what's appropriate. If she was a human child you would not allow her to walk all over you, you'd teach her not to because it's better for everyone, same goes for kitties.

The tinfoil stuff didn't work. We tried that when she was eating my plants and she went right on the tinfoil and ate away.

Alright alright, I'll do the food thing. And thanks for your advice, it helps a lot since this is my first cat I've raised on my own (other cats I've had my parents took care of while I just enjoyed their company)

When I lived with my mom, we had 3 cats and one litterbox. We never had a problem with them sharing and it was always kept clean. I've never heard of needing two litterboxes per cat. Our house isn't THAT big, and I'm not sure where we'd even put a second litterbox. It's in the laundry room/basement entrance right now.
