/an/, I need help. My dog, well.. she gets bored at home a lot. I live in an apartment with no real parks nearby so it's hard for me to take my dog out. Now, the problem is.. how do I keep my dog entertained in the home without giving it vicious tendencies? I always see people play a kind of tug of war with their dogs with either a toy bone or a sheet or whatever. Can this make your dog vicious? I just want to have fun with my dog (lulz) without turning it into a monster at the same time. So, yea.. recommend some games to play plz

Get a Kong toy. You can fill it with peanut butter or other viscous material to keep her entertained while you're away. Another good tool is a Buster Cube toy or something similar. You can fill the toy with part of her daily food rations (as long as you don't free feed...defeats the purpose!!) or tantalizing treats to entertain her. Go to your local pet shop and ask about puzzle toys.

Vicious tendencies? Unless your dog is WAY too easily excited and doesn't understand when play time is over, then tug-o-war games should be fine. You should use an ending command when playtime is over if your dog doesn't understand the idea of "no play." Use the command and then proceed to ignore any advances from your dog until she understands.

My dog (RIP Captain!) and I used to play hide and go seek. I would tell him to sit/stay in the living room and then I'd go hide. I'd call him once, and he'd come looking for me. He really taught it to himself, but you can try to teach her by keeping treats on you.

Last advice, and the best I'm going to give you, is mental stimulation. Do two or three training sessions a day. Limit them to about 15 minutes at a time, but do them consistently everyday. This will help keep her from being bored, and you'll end up with a well-trained dog to show off! =)

thanks for the advice, i guess. she isn't really into toys though, that's what sucks. what i usually end up doing with her is just acting like I'm going to grab her as she skips and tries to avoid me. i don't like it since sometimes she gets too excited and scratches the hell out of me
