So /An/ my ex girlfriend who is now my friend is getting two hamsters. She originally wanted a boy and a girl, but now she wants two girls to avoid any problems. I want to convince her to get a boy and a girl. What's the easiest way of preventing any problems? They are going to be baby hamsters also.

LOL i didn't know hamster were imaginary pets!!

If she's getting hamsters like the one pictured, she shouldn't get two. There's a good chance they'll kill each other, even if they're siblings or raised together. They're best kept solitary.

I'm going to call troll, though, since you're pressing the "hehe I want a boy and a girl" thing. So yeah. Fuck off, troll.

hamsters are the worst possible pets. i'm not joking, they bite, are mean as hell, and smell really bad. tell her to get 2 gerbils. they're so much fun, dont smell (dont pee as much bc they are desert animals, therefore dont drink as much), they're always busy and FUN little dudes. hamsters sleep all day, bite, and smell like shit. also boys have gross ballsacks

Her second choice was a single rabbit.

Rabbits make slightly better pets. If you get a smart one, you can litter train them, and they will do rudimentary stuff like come when called.

No dipshit, I chose to restate it because some people weren't catching on. Posts ending in 5548 and 5581 came after 5391 and 5471, in case you think new posts are at the top or don't comprehend numerical order.

And again:

> Encourage her to get a single syrian hamster, or perhaps a pair of dwarf hamsters.

'Dwarf hamsters' is MULTIPLE SPECIES, including Phodopus sungorus, which is generally just as solitary as syrians and will kill one another. This was one of the primary differences cited in classifying it as a species distinct from Phodopus campbelli.

>>Sometimes they can function alright together.

Note the "sometimes." What dwarf hamsters are in the pet trade? Chinese, winter whites, robos, russians? Chinese dwarves, russians, and robos can all be housed in pairs or more, can they not? I think that'd constitute "sometimes."

I think that constitutes 'some'.
