Hey, /an/.
My Hamster is sick. I woke up today and found that he had dry feces around his bum, and so I washed it off. Now he won't move around much, and when he does, he is very slow. He won't eat and he doesn't seem to want to open his eyes.

He also seems very, very tired, and all he does is sit in a corner of his cage and occasionally sip from his water bottle.
Anyone know what this could be? Any treatments?

Did you recently switch Hamster food? Perhaps he's having a bad reaction.

Good, now get a rat. They're way smarter, and friendlier.

My guinea pig died a few months ago - he was six. We watched some videos of him when he was younger and we were shocked at how slow and feeble he had gotten - it had happened so gradually we never noticed. He had symptoms like that of your hamster, at the end.

He died in the middle of the night. He hadn't really moved in days. I woke up to the sound of him scrabbling in his cage. When I went to look at him, he was lying on his side, his eyes shut, his legs moving like he was running as fast as he could, and he was making that half-purr, half-chirp noise that guinea pigs make when they're happy. I sat there and watched him as his legs moved slower and slower and he eventually stopped moving.

I'm sorry about your hamster.

Sounds like old age, hamsters don't live very long, around 2 years at best.

Similar thing happened with my guinea pig, he was nearly 8 years old. We realized he was hardly pooping anymore, and he seemed to shake when he walked. We cleaned around his bum and when we were putting him back in his cage he just went limp. I cried for hours.

God I miss him sooo much ;___;

OP here, Hamster turned out to be female, and had an infection in the ovaries and uterus.

I went out and bought three Roborovskis, spur of the moment. Now I'm wondering if I should separate them or keep them together..
