All cat foods are fine as long as you don't feed them too damn much. You and your vet can go to hell.

We don't overfeed them.. by the way they are indoor cats.

its true that most brand name cat food is utter crap basically it is junk food. My vet told me to feed my cat mostly wet food with dry food available for them, however I have not had a cat for while so i no longer remember what brands were good.

apparently wet foods is the best for making a fat cat lose weight...im too cheap for that, though...my cat's weight is a steady 14lbs or so for the past 2 years....only feed her 0.5 - 0.66 cups of iams weight control dry food a day, but she's just lazy and mostly sleeps all day

:/

Anon recommended Nutro when I asked. That and the person who was fostering my cat before I adopted her was feeding her Nutro as well. She isn't overweight, and, looking at the list of ingredients on the package, I'd say it's a pretty healthy brand.

Namefag is right. Nutro Max Cat is the cheaper of the varieties, and is a very good food for the price.

As for wet food, Friskies and Fancy Feast are good and cheap. They shouldn't be getting much wet food. I'm not sure about the exact amount, but our cats go through four cans of Friskies every two-three weeks.

Just because it is expensive doesn't mean its good. But if it is really cheap it is probably bad.

Nutro is an okay choice. Wellness or Natural Choice are better. Solid Gold is bester.

Too much canned food can cause obesity and dental issues. Purely dry food can do horrible things to their bladders. Too much protein in food (which some of the otherwise-best foods are) can cause kidney problems. Avoid corn or things that list "meat" or "meal" or "chaff" in the ingredients.

My horde get Blue Buffalo (wilderness and weight control, for the curious) with the occasional can of Solid Gold.

My cats never liked Blue Buffalo, unfortunately, so they get Solid Gold. Generally speaking, if you go into a pet store and ask where their super premium food section is, you'll find a darn good assortment.

Also, OP, are your cats seriously named after Sailor Moon?

O_______O OP here, hahahahah I seriously never thought about that. But nop, Luna is because I like the moon (i'm mexican so is in spanish) Minna is because of an actress, and my male cat (brother of this 2) is Dante for dante's infierno book. Hahaha oh god sailor moon xD

You scared me.. about the only dry food diet thing.. I give only dry food to my cats (these 2 and the other 2 at my parents house) I will have to start alternating the dry food and wet food.

Thanks /an/

Meet Roary.

Roary was born on 26th December 2007. He weighed 700g at the time he was brought into the shelter (which could may well have been at birth), and they couldn't do anything with him (despite being born with ringworm), so he was sent to foster care.
Upon returning from foster care back to the shelter, Roary had a photoshoot session to get his mugshot taken and put up for adoption. This was when he broke a leg, making him ineligible for adoption.
When his leg was healed and he was returned to the shelter again, Roary caught the cat flu. His flu kept worsening so he was on two different antibiotics.

I got him because when I went past his cage, he started purring and rolling and jumping up and down and sticking his paws out of the cage. I kept the name "Roary" too. He has a weird bare patch on the heel of his hind leg, and yellow discoloured fur at the places where he had ringworm lesions.

His liquid antibiotics finish today (I hide it in treats) and his tablets will probably finish by Thursday (He can eat the tablets willingly).

... which comes to the actual issue: the shelter fed him Hill's Science Diet. He loves this shit, won't eat anything else, and because he was fed nothing else but this at the shelter, he gets picky about anything being added in it.

So my solution in the meantime is to feed him some treats mixed up with another diet, and then moving slowly on to other chosen bits of food. This being Ausfailia, the cheapest brand of cat food ironically has nothing but the stated ingredient (eg tuna) in it, so the progress is so far so good.

You should be careful about suddenly switching brands, OP, because that could lead to putting the cat off the food or getting diarrhea. You should start with slow mixes.

OP here, yeah.. I know I have to start slowly, the last time I went on vacation, my mother bought a different brand of food and my cats refuse to eat it... And when I came back.. OMG I was shocked to see how skinny the were (not OP cats, minna and luna live at my fiance's apartment) so yeah I will have to mix the new brand with the old one until I get rid of the friskies.
