Could there be a lot of oil under Antarctica?

I'm not saying we should turn continent inside out and forsake alternative fuels. But if worst comes to worst, is drilling there an option?

If there is, it's a good thing we thawed it out with global warming.

It isn't worth drowning all the coastlines. Though I must admit, the thought of drowning Florida is certainly enticing.

I dont care if it destroy a continent as long as fuel prices goes down, it hurts me filling up my tank

Geology exists outside of nature?

You realise that fuel costs in the USA are still far lower than in other western countries right?

Also, smaller cars use less fuel. Might be worth looking into before advocating destroying the antarctic.

And this is why the human race destined to meet the same fate as the dinosaurs, except the dinosaurs managed to stick around 100 million years longer than we probably will.

There isn't very much and it would be too difficult to drill out anyway.

I don't think smaller cars would provide that much of a relief from demand for petroleum distillates. Among other things, the synthetics industry uses them as feedstock, and the electrical power industry uses them as fuel. There are places in the world where trucks are the only way to get around and there's a dozen Diesel or gasoline generators on every block, and how's a better kind of commuter car going to help them reduce demand?

Don't you think if 10 million people change their suvs for something more economical fuel consumption would go down a little?

I mean everybody should do something to change our ways...

It would more feasible to recycle existing plastic using nuclear energy than to drill into the Antarctica.

That's, of course, after we'll run out of coal because that's what they're planning to use as a substitute to oil.
