Help! Since late last night my dog has cried in pain when I try to pick him up under his front legs (I think it's the left one that hurts) or when he puts pressure on them to try and climb onto a bed or couch. It didn't get better over night. He has no visible injuries, bleeding, that sort of thing. What's wrong with him?

have you checked his claws? they may be too long

Vet, now.

Any alternatives? My mom will say it's not a big enough deal.

Wait to see if he dies.

Shove a knife in her armpit to illustrate your point. Does the animal need to bleed on her carpet before she gets the idea?

Well if he's still in pain when she gets home and I actually have a car to go to the vet with we'll talk about it, but until then I came here hoping for some input on what you or anyone who might have a scrap of veterinary knowledge (as I myself know fuck all to do with the subject), to see if someone could just give a rough hypothesis.
He didn't break his leg or anything, the bones feel fine and there's nothing sticking out of him. I don't feel anything moving around inside him, and all the danger he might've been in was spending a few hours in the backyard yesterday. Suppose he did just pull a muscle? Does that sound logical or is there more than meets the eye, much like a Transformer?

For what it's worth, he's hurting less now. I can lift him off his feet with my hands under his armpits, which made him holler last night, though he still begins to whimper if I try to hoist him thusly off the ground. He should be all right, but thanks anyway.

Tell your mom she's a fucking asshole.

Kinda unrelated, but my dog was hit by a car a few years ago. Nothing broken or visibly injured, and she could walk, but she was in extreme pain. We took her to the vet immediately (she insisted on walking instead of letting us cradle her on a stretcher) and it turned out that the muscles that keep a dog's leg close to their body had torn. Her leg had been stretched and pinned away from her body when she was run over.

While it's probably nothing as extreme as that, he may have sprained a muscle there. Definitely worth taking to the vet.

Honestly my first thought was somebody stepped on him or kicked him, making him sore. I know that sounds dramatic but it happens all the time. I'd see a vet since he's still in pain.

THIS!

Jesus Christ. What do you think the internet can do?

GOATSE!! That's all we have. Take him to a goddamn vet.

Stab your mom, steal her car, take him to the vet.

If she says that vet trips are too expensive she should've never gotten a dog.
