Hey guys, I found this skull at a beach near my house. Can anyone around here identify it?

It's from Northern Ohio.

Possibly some kind of pig/boar would be my guess. Can't help you any further.

Much agreed but unfortunately my dope friend didn't take anymore, he was just going for the artsy look.

For what it's worth, there were no eye sockets, so this appears to be a lower jaw.

I don't like you any more!

Sell it to Nook. You need the bells anyways.

That's not a lower jaw of any land vertebrate. Either it's a part of the skull proper, with the bones of the cranium detached (unlikely as there are no teeth), or it's not a skull period. More photos would be needed to ascertain this.

Lulz achieved.

I think it might be the skull of a common catfish (the marine variety). The skulls of catfish are said by some to resemble the crucifixion of Christ. Google 'catfish skull' and see what I mean.

By golly, it does. This doesn't look much like the OP's pic, though.

It's probably just some other species of catfish. The resemblance is obvious enough.

Hello, I am the one who took that picture. It's from a Nokia N82 if anyone was curious.

I've seen similar looking skulls by that same beach (Lake Erie) and always wondered what they came from. I could no doubt drive over there and find another one in less than 30 minutes. They are that common around there, just not as intact as the one pictured. Unlike my friend (OP), I care much less as to what the thing is; he seems to be determined to find out.

it looks similar enough to this that I'd say a different species of catfish. maybe the Great Lakes cats are different from the marine ones.

size and bone density look wrong for a fish species. the bone density looks like something from a mammal. also catfish dont have tusks, which is what the front of the nose looks like it has...possibly a small pig/boar?

The skull in question does not have teeth. NO TEETH. That means no tusks. They are bony growths of the skull itself.

...

I just got trolled, didn't I?

I don't think so. This is quite the debate. I think it is a catfish, given the two notches at the bottom of the picture there, but it's inconclusive.
