At first I didn't mind one or two of these little fuckers hanging around in my bathroom, but now there's like 20 of them hanging out around my house. What do I do /an/?
>> Anonymous
Nothing, or if they really annoy you, throw them out or kill them.
>> ? Anonymous
What kind of spider is that? Looks pretty.. gross.
>> Anonymous
Its a harvestman, not really a spider, but same genus.
>> Anonymous
Hm, doesn't look like it. If it's the same ones I have in my bathroom, it's an actual spider, they have a waxy abdomen and look very similar to a harvestman but it's not quite the same.

collect all of them, but them in a clear plastic box, throw the into the trash.

That way your mind won't tell you that you killed them :)

Daddy Long Legs

Leave them alone or put them outside, they're totally harmless unless you leave a glass of water by your bed to drink at night and one of them drowns in it and OH GOD THE MOTHERFUCKER ALMOST WENT IN MY MOUTH!

thats what I've been taught and read. Does anyone know the real truth?

Mythbusters used these strange spiders when they tested out wheather they were the most venomous arachnid.

Which the true harvestmen arent even arachnids. Arachnids have 2 body segments. The spider in the pic has 2 body segments.

Harvestman have 1. thus making them somthing seperate.

me again..

a few minutes on the web has given me the answer. to correct myself above. Harvestmen arent spiders but are arachnids. "Although they belong to the class of arachnids, harvestmen are not counted as spiders, which are of the order araneae rather than the order opiliones."

Same class, Different order. Not spiders.

but moving on.
these>>290431called cellar spiders.

They are a tropical species and breed year round.
In Australian homes, they are considered beneficial because they will kill and eat the venomous Redback spider. They can easily catch and eat other small spiders, mosquitoes, and other insects.

Straight from wiki.

And also. Some neat stuff about harvestmen

The feeding apparatus (stomotheca) differs from other arachnids in that ingestion is not restricted to liquid, but chunks of food can be taken in. Harvestmen have a pair of prosomatic defensive scent glands (ozopores) that secrete a peculiar smelling fluid when disturbed, confirmed in some species to contain noxious quinones. Harvestmen do not have silk glands and do not possess venom glands, posing absolutely no danger to humans

OP spider is a cellar spider. Cellar spiders AND huntsmen are referred to as 'daddy long legs'. It is not the name of any particular genus or something, it's just a nickname for the spiders/bugs. Some places even refer to crane flies as daddy long legs.
OP, just fucking kill them. They're everywhere and you sitting around posting about it won't help things. Maybe invite some friends over and have yourselves a good-old spider hunt.

I have the same kind of spider hanging around my house, at least they look the same, except these things are building Spider Webs, which tells me immediately they are not Harvestmen, also all the Harvestmen we have around these parts are much browner, these are closer to black in color, any clue /an/?
>> Anonymous
Well, probably last thing i post.

I wouldnt kill them. These are some of the only predators of black widows and red-back spiders. A large number of these guys means none of the others

One reason why these spiders are said to be so dangerous could be that they regularly prey on other spiders, including the black widow (Latrodectus spp.), which itself can be dangerous to humans, with the reasoning that the preying spider must be even more venomous; which is incorrect.

I didn't care so I let them get out of hand at my house. My basement turned into a fucking horror movie. There were millions of them. Had to pay some one to get rid of it.

The best way to get spiders out of your house is to eliminate the pests they're feeding on.
