After returning home from a job (was gone two 1/2 days) I opened up the house and let all my cats in. It wasn't until later in the evening when everything was done that we all started to settle down.

Long story short my sweet little Belle tabby rolled over on her back beside me on the couch and STOMACH MUSCLES, EXPOSED. I mean, fuck, there was this huge flap of skin just lying there. I pressed some clean water compresses to it as gently as I could to brush away what large debris might have been on it. I took her to the vet this morning and they put her under and sewed her up. Huge laceration was huge. Now she's got a frankenstein mass of stitches all along her belly. The anesthetic wore off a while ago and aside from antibiotics they didn't give me anything else.

Is there anything I can do to make her more comfortable? I'm keeping her in one of my large kennel blocks at my feet. I also saw her pulling and nibbling at her stitches. Can I do anything to make her stop or do I just let her get the idea that pulling on them isn't going to help?

ITT: Help me make my cat comfortable! *baww*

Hmm.. Next time you'll want to keep all your cats inside, shit like that happens when they're outside.

That aside, however, you'll probably want to separate her from the rest of your cats, buy some of that sour apple stuff they sell at pet stores to stop cats from chewing on cords and rub it on her belly and she should instantly stop trying to gnaw at the stitches.

If that doesn't help, you might have to go back to the vet and get one of those cones. Other than that, believe it or not cats are incredibly resilient to pain, however you should avoid picking her up at all costs and stressing her out. Just allocate a room of your place for her to sleep, eat, and relax. The less she moves, the better.

Also, keep a look out for infection, I know she already went to the vet, but check it every couple of hours, make sure you give her the antibiotics the vet gave you, etc.

Thanks a lot. Yeah, I know its part of the risk of letting them be outside cats but they're pretty much a massive litter and take care of each other. When I first saw the wound I thought someone had taken a shot at her or something, which is unlikely.

I'm thinking it might have been a stray I glimpsed a few times. For such a teensy, dainty little cat she's pretty territorial. Either that or she got hung up on something.

Right now she's kind of growlin and meowing to herself in the box. She's trying to lay on her side but is having trouble. She tried to climb into my lap but didn't lie down. I didn't pick her up but just kind of shoo'ed her around and corraled her in. I'm trying to look for some old t-shirts I can bunch up in there with her in the hopes that maybe she can sit at an angle or something.

Yeah, get a catsitter or something. Hope your cat gets better.

you could probably find something very bitter tasting and put it around the stitches. one of my cats had almost the same thing happen to her and the vet gave me some sort of gel to put on it to discourage her from biting at it while it healed.

Aw I'm so sorry about your cat ;; at least she survived though, right? I'd give her a little catnip, and lots and lots of love. If she's allowed, give her some really nice top of the line wet cat food. Hope she feels better

Or you could purr to her. Also when my cat got fixed they didn't give her a cone but she never pulled at the stitches, just licked them and doctors said it was okay. I fucking love cat cones. they're so funny

Sounds like your cat had some sort of boil explode.

A cat of mine once had one on the side of her face, and she was missing half of her face for the longest time. Another one has had a few on her tail.

Well she's a really thin, streamlined cat and I was only gone for like two days so I don't think it was a boil. I give em all a lot of attention and check them for ticks so I would have noticed it. This thing was like she was in a fucking knife fight with Big Boss or something.

So far she's taking her meds alright and just sleeping a lot. I went to the store today to get some nice canned food...then I remembered that she doesn't eat it. Got her some nice dry though and a nice clean water dish.

What would work for something bitter to put on her belly? Something natural? The vet is kind of far away so I'm not really sure about another trip there. She's going back in about 9 days to get stitches removed though.

Pic semi related it's her fatass brother preparing for takeoff.
