Cat Gas LokianGOP
Dear /an/
My male cat has horrible gas. Oh god the stink. I even tried changing his food to an indoor only type, with no change. Any suggestions?

Are you alternating wet and dry food? Or is he just eating wet food?

Just dry. I give them wet maybe once a month as a treat.

Our boys used to get the runny smelly shits something chronic, but we were able to fix it with a diet change recommended by the vet.

Get some plain, raw minced beef or lamb.
Cook some plain white rice so you've got the same amount as you do of the mince.
Let the rice cool
Mix the two together (you'll have to get your hands dirty for this one to really get it blended well), the chuck them in indivual servers in plastic bags, containers whatever, and freeze (cos you'll have a lot).
Defrost individual lots of the mix every day, and give that to your cat. It'll really help the digestive system. If you want, you can also add in some vitamin powder as well.

We fed our boys on this for about a month before taking them back to their usual food, and they've been fine since.

Also - dry food is not that great for cats all the time - that most like will not be helping on the smell side, but it can also cause kidney and bladder problems for male cats.

Ahh ok, thank you. I was wondering if I should give them some raw meat, because that's what they're designed for. They won't get sick off it thou, because of worms or bacteria?
And I only feed them dry food to help their teeth and such, but I'm thinking of mixing in some moist. I Use meow mix indoors, so can you recommend a moist food?

Maybe the fact that you're feeding MeowMix is the problem. MeowMix = crappo food, really.

Try switching to something a little higher quality, ask around at your local petstore. I'm sure they can at least guide you to the premium food section.

Fillers like corn can cause gas.

Innova and Natural Balance don't have fillers like corn so they won't cause gas.

They probably cost more, but anything's better than that Meow Mix crap.

you might try purina

If you're giving the cat raw meat, use stuff that's fit for human consumption - doesn't have to be the finest grade, but yeah, not just some minced up roadkill you stumbled across!

He's just establishing himself as master of the domain. Once he feels firmly in place as alpha being he will move onto shitting directly on you to let you know your place.
