Hi /an/. I'm the jerk who kept bothering you people with fiddler crab related issues. Not that you would care, of course. Anyway, I finally have the tank up and running ( filter running, temperature and humidity stable, etc.), and added 4 crabs. If you care to know, the tank is a 20 gallon model, so they have plenty of room. It is a half land-half water settup, with about 3 gallons or so worth of brackish water, and about 1.5 square foot area of land. The point to all of this is, I would like to take the tank a step further, making it a mixed crustacean tank. I'm not going to bother with hermits, but am instead interested in ghost shrimp. They're fairly interesting, so I was wondering if they could tolerate moderate salinity, and if they would do well with the fiddlers, who spend a fair amount of time in the water.

Ghost shrimp can be bought as feeders at most pet food shops for 10 to 20 cents apiece. They do not live long even in fresh water and they aren't particularly exciting unless they are being chased by my brackish puffers for dinner. I recommend a filter and some small brackish fish like rono argentinus

I forgot to mention that I have a filter in there already. One of the smaller ones, for turtle settups, to keep the water clean. Are you sure fish would be happy in such a small amount of water? What is a "rono argentinus"?

you mean Monodactylus argenteus

the mono
brackish to salt water fish...get way to big and active for what you are talking about, any size you could buy would have its dorsal fins out of the water.

Look into guppies, they are brackish in the wild and would not mind the small amount of water so much. Most are actually raised over seas in almost half strenght saltwater...thus the large mortality of imported guppies in the US. Find one that doesn't look too fancy, that way your crabs will not eat its fins and it will probably be a little more hardy since it will not have been bred to death. Depending on the size of the crabs also look into pea puffers.

Yeah get some ghost shrimp, a green puffer, and some mudkips. Mudkips tend to get along well with fiddler crabs.
