Theres a reptile show coming up in about 2 months, and I wanted to get something new. Right now I have 2 pacman frogs.

Im thinking of either a chameleon or a crested gecko.

Things im looking for

-cheap
-able to be handled once in a while
-Not too big of a tank, or a larger tall tank
-Cresteds can be fed a special diet thats almost like baby food.

Im not really into snakes, and since I already have frogs im leaning towards some type of lizard. Bearded dragons are out becuase I really dont have room for a huge long tank.

Any ideas other than cresteds/chams?

Well a Chameleon probably isn't a good idea if your looking for something to handle they tend to be aggressive. I'm not to familiar with gecko's but that would be your best bet it fits your required fields.

Really? Even if I raise them up from a few months old? I heard veilds/jacksons are good for people new to chams.

Crested Geckos are good because they're cool, but also REALLY easy to care for. Like, ridiculously easy. They don't need heat lamps or live food. They just need something to climb, some fruit baby food or crested gecko food, a good misting every few days, and that's it. If you handle them from a young age, they get used to it, although you can't mess with them too much.

I use baby food with the Crested food mixed in and it works fine.

While Jacksons and and Veilds are the best chameleon to start with, they're still a much more difficult reptile to care for than other lizards. If you don't have much experience with reptiles, I highly suggest getting something else, then trying a chameleon later after your more experienced. Also in my opinion they need a big cage or even let to free roam; i built mine a huge outdoor enclosure because i couldn't stand seeing him miserable indoors in a cage. As for friendliness, My male Veild warmed up to me pretty quickly, allowing me to move him around and for him to chill on me while outside in the sun, but was still grumpy and didn't like to be bothered. They're also really prone to bone problems, at about 6 years old his tongue became messed up from calcium deficiency and had to be hand fed because he couldn't shoot it anymore, so be sure to remember to always dust the gut loaded crickets.
