Hey /an/

I'm doing an article on a pet show I went to a few weeks back, and I just wanted some general sentiments.

Why do people love animals so much? Why a particular animal or breed of animal? Why cats over dogs, etc?

Any opinions would be rad

My cats are my best friends. I don't mean that in a creepy loser way, either. My friends all have jobs, wives, etc, but my cats are always there for me. One likes everyone he meets, but the other one only likes me. After my surgery, she was so gentle with me and ever-present that my mom (who stayed with me right after I left the hospital), took to calling her my nurse.

Speaking of my mom, her dogs have really helped ease her "empty nest" syndrome ever since I moved away. Dogs can both precede children (a couple getting a dog as "training") and proceed them as with my mom.

cats think they're better than you.
They are greedy, take food from you, then go to the next door neighbours house to be fed again.
They will ditch your ass in an instant.
They don't love you, they love the things you buy for them.

My cockatiel is my baby.
Ever since I've got him, he's thought Im his parent, he always likes to be close, if I leave the room he will make a call asking where I am. I'll scratch his head, and he'll preen my hair, If im eating something, he'll walk over and nibble at it. When i come home, he'll climb to the front of the cage and call for me. He hisses and bites our cat, he is truly badass.
Birds are true companions.
