Generally, breeds that have undergone extensive selection for appearance have more wacky health problems than those that have not. Working dogs, for example, usually don't have difficulties (with the very notable exception of merle-merle Australian Shepherds, which is avoidable) that are breed particular because they have been selected for intelligence, obedience, and longevity. I have a Catahoula Leopard Dog, and she is the healthiest animal I have ever seen. Like an Olympian, this dog. Even when she got roundworm as a puppy she didn't show any symptoms, unlike most dogs who get stomach upset at the very least. She just started barking at her shit one day because it was moving, so we shipped her off for worming. Anyways, tl;dr working dogs are healthy, toy dogs are not.
