Michael
Hey guys, I am looking for a pet. I live in an apartment that doesn't allow dogs, cats, etc. Basically i want an animal that is smell-free and can fit in an aquarium.

- I don't want a fish, but that doesn't mean i hate all aquatic life.
- I like lizards, but not something that can get out and kill me.
- I hate all forms of insects, spiders, scorpions, etc.
- I don't want a ferret/hamster/gerbil/rat because they tend to stink like crazy.

Please help me /an/!

what wrong about a hamster? they are cute, small, fit in an aquarium, not harmful to you, non-insects.......seems like fitting every of your requirement :O

the only reason they stinks is because you dont know how to clean them, trust me cat and dogs stink A LOT MORE if you never clean them.

not to mention that BATTLE HAMSTER FUCKING OWNS

not harmful?!

Having known hamsters that run over to me just to bite the hell out of my hands, I would not recommend one.

I'd say get a skink. They are super tame and come in many colors. If not a skink then a bearded dragon. Just make sure you get a baby and handle it often.

Or you could get a snake. Go for a corn snake or kingsnake if you want something a little fatter. They stay small around 4-5' on average. Live for about 20 years. Very easy snake to care for, docile, come in many varieties. I have a 7yo black corn that's around 4' with a diameter just a little smaller than a quarter.
You can also leave your corn alone for months and handle it without a problem later. Not so with other animals.

Guinea pigs don't stink, unless you don't change the cage often enough. Honestly, I'd go for a guinea pig (or rat) because most smaller pets are high strung and less affectionate.

The downside is that both require lots of daily attention, or they'll get lonely and depressed. Or you can get 2, but then you need a cage nearly twice as big.

Iguana's have a very high demand, such as temperature regualation, food, and need to be misted very often...They also tend to catch cold and get sick very easy. I would suggest a Bearded Dragon, they are cool looking, don't smell, fit in an aquarium, and don't have a high demand for temperature, although you have to have it consistently hot. They can also live off of only crickets for quite a while if thats all you want to feed them. They are easy to take care of, just get a book on em and do the things listed and wholah, an awesome pet!

Spiny mouse, yo.

You can find these guys at some pet stores, and most can order them even if they do not have any on hand.

They are a desert species, so they urinate very little. I kept three in a 20 gallon long aquarium and only had to change the bedding every month as long as I scooped out the corner they used as a toilet once a week. They do not smell at all! They are also pleasant-tempered and handleable... not to mention really damn cute, since they have fox-like faces.

If you want a herp, ignore all of the morons who say to get a damn iguana. They can grow up to 6 feet long, not exactly ideal for aquarium life. Plus, the males can develop nasty tempers. I second the recommendation for bearded dragons, as they stay comparably small and mild-mannered.

Also, whatever animal you get, make sure to do research beforehand so you know the proper care, housing, food, etc.

Bearded dragons do not get "fucking hueg." They are 18-24 inches long at full maturity including the tail.

Op, plan on spending about 3x the price of your pet on the sutff it needs, or more even. A good aquarium set up will run around 200$ once everything is said and done.

You can probably spend less than 100$ for a herp's set up, but some snakes and lizards will easily exceed 100$

Mamales will be the cheapest (depending on if you get hamsters or a chinchilla), and most short lived. You can get many kits for around 50 bucks that come with everything you need.

Two words though, Pacman frog. They don't move much so a 20 long would be fine, need minimal heating, grow to a good size, will eat anything they can fit into their mouths. They'll run you around 20 dollars. I'd expect to pay a total of 70-80$ for everything.

You are correct, and thank you for correcting me..I looked it up, Bearded dragons as you said get up to an average of 18-24 inches. Adult green Iguana's get up to 20 pounds and two meters (or six feet)...
