Snappers do have a bad rep' but did you know that they are actually dual natured?
Out of water they strike ferociously, but underwater they only flee and wont strike.
Alot of people grab them by the tail because it places them out of reach but this can harm the turtle. I've found grasping the shell above the head is also a safe place but you gotta watch it when you let go. Draw you hands back over the shell not forward. Then your back hand on the back shell. For large ones that need two hands
On the medium sized ones that you can carry with one hand I've actually been able to pin the head down with a few fingers inside the shell pushing down. Kinda risky but they arent strong enough to push back.
