Dear 4chan's /an/: Anonymous
All my fish started to randomly die tonight. I was especially depressed / sad to see my kissing fish of eight years go. I checked the water and PH levels, and looked in the filter, and still can't tell what's wrong. There were other fish that I had bought from another town, but they had been in the tank for almost a week now.

Any ideas on what might have caused the sudden drop? :( Also, please post some fish..</3 Or at least something cute.

Those new fish might have been infected with some disease.
When you put them in your tank, it spread and now kills all your fish.
What kind of fish are those new ones?

Dalmation mollies, black mountain tetras, a catfish, and "Mickey Mouse" Platys.

I asked because some fish are said to be releasing a poison in the water when stressed: Corydoras sterbai for example.

Are they attacking each other? All my old kissing fish died because they all ate/attacked each other.

NOT SO AFFECTIONATE ANYMORE, ARE THEY?

I remember when my fish died randomly. It was horrible. We introduced a couple of guppies, and after a few days, they just all ended up floating upside down. It was really depressing, since I loved my aquarium. Watching the fish go on about their daily lives was very relaxing, and I miss it, because I still don't have enough cash spare to restock the tank.

I knew a guy who had a party and some guy poured beer into his fishtank and killed all his fish.

Yes! The Dalmation mallies kept picking on the Kissing Fish, but then one of them died, too...so it's hard to say.

-do you do partial water changes?

-sometimes the heater will break and you won't realize it till your fish start dying or get ich. Did you check the water temp?

We recently bought 10 fancy guppies, the 30 gall aquarium we had setup was all ready, the test on the water cam out perfect from Petco. After talking more about what could have killed them it was

1. The temperature change. Take note of what the temp is in the store tanks to adjust yours.

2. Introducing them in the water. you should leave the bagged fish in your tank floating for about 30 minutes for the temerature to balance but its also very important that you pour a small amount of your tank water into their bag every 5 minutes so they can gradually accept your water and not be shocked.

3. Maybe the lack of using a StressCoat additive to build a slime coating for new fish in new waters.

Are you absolutely sure they are compatible fish, did you talk with the Pet store specialist before buying?

You should quarantine fish that you just bought in a seperate tank for a while.

Stress coat is a scam.

What are your NO3-, NH3/NH4, and NO2 readings?

I don't think it was the temp if they all just dropped dead a week after op bought them. you'd notice symptoms.

I was probably a parasite or something the your new fish had, those fuckers take a while to spread.

Thank you very much, everyone...you've been a great help. The mallies, the main source of the problem (most likely infection, as several of you have said) have been quarantined...unfortunately, we've lost seven fish. It's disheartening, but we're treating the tank with disinfectants and giving fresh water to the fish...hopefully, the medicine ought to help.

Thank you again, all. ):
