I volunteer at a dog-shelter. We have the most awesome dogs there, mostly this dog, who is one of the smartest dogs I met in my life.
Also, when someone abandoned 8 puppies at the age of one month at out shelter, he was their mother and suckled them (or at least tried.)

Come to think of it, maybe that dog wasn't so darn smart after all.

I used to volunteer at my local animal shelter. Good times. Since I was only in eight grade I wasn't responsible for the cleaning. I could just go there, play with cats for two hours, walk a few dogs and feed them, and head home.

I'm considering going back to volunteer since I have no job and have time to kill.

I remember volunteering at my local animal shelter. Took forever to be allowed to euthanize the animals but I'll never forget the first time I got my chance. I don't even beat off anymore.

I also volunteered at my local animal shelter in high school. It was essentially a long concrete blockhouse dog kennel that almost made me deaf in the time I stayed there. As the only boy on the staff my only job was to clean out the pens (dogs crapped on the floor at night) and fill water dishes. Contact with the dogs was generally discouraged; before I could enter a pen I had to wait until the dog left into the yard through the unlocked doggie door, then lock it.

It was a no-kill shelter though, so that was good.

I used to volunteer with children at an afterschool center.

Yes, it counts.
