The other day I got a crested mynah bird, he has a club foot so his original owner didn't want him (bastard). He is a lovely little fellow and has taken a shine to me and I'm spending many happy hours with him chirping away in his aviary whilst I talk nonsensical garbage to him.I know how to look after mynah birds and I had him checked by a vet as soon as I got him and he's in good health, comfortable and happy. What I would like to know is what is the best way to get mynahs to learn specific phrases, and indeed can they or is it just random what they pick up on? Should I just repeat a phrase until he learns it or whenever i feed him, or when I come near him or what?He seems to have started mimicking the sound of nails being hammered in since he was nearby when a friend and I made his aviary, which was quite cute but he's not picked up on words or sounds from me yet.(pic related, its not him though)
For some reason mynahs seem to be more adept at mimicking nigger speech. Redneck speech will do if spoken hoarsely and cantankerously enough.
With parrots, the only real way to teach them words and phrases is to say them around them a lot. I would assume that it's the same with Mynas, and it should pick up on things rather quickly. Mynas are smart bastards.
I forgot to add that it doesn't really matter how or when you do it. I've seen some birds pick up on things said in other rooms of the house.
Teach it just like you would a kid. When you give it a food item, name it. Carrot? Carrot! The bird is smart and will start getting the idea. When you come into the room, say hello. When you leave, say goodbye....etc etc

Put Lil'John on repeat in the same room as him. Use the uncensored version though unless you want him to end up like thishttp://youtube.comwatch?v=WZQe7l-uEXw/r/ pix.
Damn, I always wanted one. Lucky bastard, take good care of him.
