I caught this thing that kinda looks like a fly only it's long, has white on the bottom of its legs, and it looks really fucking pissed off.
What is it? and should I kill it?

It's a goddamn wasp. Unless you are horribly allergic, the worst that will happen is you get stung, which will mean your hand hurts like the dickens for a few minutes and is swollen. It's not a big deal. I'd want to kill you too if you trapped me in a cup.

Get an index card or some kind of stiff paper, slide it under the cup, then go outside and place the cup/paper combo on the ground. Stand in your doorway, and knock the cup over with a stuck, then slam the door shut. You will be safe, pansy.

Also, the reflections in the first pic remind me of that dude who took pictures of his nude reflection in things. Wink wink.

I have no idea what you are talking about. Why just the other day I found a wasp very similar to that one on my porch. Being the friendly sort of fellow that I am, I offered him my arm to climb upon. He stung me, but it wasn't too bad. It was a little disturbing to wake up hours later, covered in mud and sugar, cowering next to a buzzing hive of giant red wasps, but really, what's a little blackout and memory loss between friends?

ok will spraying raid under the cup kill it or does that only work on roaches?

That's not a stinger.

....you vagina, I was kidding about killing it. You can't seriously be afraid of sliding an index card or something under the cup and taking it outside. Wow.

How can you be so stupid, do you climb into the polar bear exhibits at zoos because they might want a hug too?

No I fucking hate polar bears. A fair portion of the females have penises, and I'm hoping that humans don't decide that's a good idea. A man can only take so much confusion. Also, are you aware of what the word "satire" means? You may want to look it up.

>>128861
Please tell me that an OLDER sister did it, and you did not send a toddler to put the wasp outside.

Please tell me your YOUNGER sister put it out for you, thus ensuring many lulz.

Bitter, I'm going to have to disagree with you. That is not a wasp. It's head, antennae, and eyes give it away as a fly of some kind. It could be a hoverfly or a kind of large animal-biting fly, like a horsefly.

Keep in mind that many flies do bear a resemblance to wasps as a means of avoiding predation (mimicry).

slide a papersheet under the glass and throw the monster outside.

ITT people that don't know how to identify a bug.
If I had to guess, I'd say it's a spider-killin' wasp. They usually hold their wings that way, paper and mason wasps hold them at 45° angles away from their bodies (usually).
When asking to ID a bug, tell us how big it is, and where you live. If you live in the US (especially the South), I can probably tell you what it is.

This is also a valid option, though I doubt it's a horsefly, their wings are usually clear and not dark.
OP, tell us where you live and it will make this a lot easier.

Depends on the species of the fly. Here in TX we get a lot of horseflies that are 100% black, including their wings.

I've never seen a horsefly that looks like OP's photo exactly, but the head on it does look like a fly rather than a wasp.

Judging by OP's photos, this insect has huge compound eyes that dominate its head. That is characteristics of flies, not wasps.

129076 here. I'm not the op (obviously), but it does indeed look like a soldier fly.

we have them in Hawai'i, pretty creepy to be honest. I've held them in my cupped hands without being stung but I once grabbed one between my fingers and had it's abdomen reach around for my finger...I promptly let it go.
