I have no desire to start the epic cat/dog debate. But here's my stance:

1) Dogs are like computers, they're very, very intelligent however they require you to input commands before they do anything. Added benefit is that they are more utile as pets go. Having job specialties and whatnot but they require one on one attention/play etc. Cool for some people, not really my thing.

2) Cats are like AI. They don't do shit for you, most of the time they don't care but they're self-sufficient, can entertain themselves and have definite personalities. Drawbacks are that they can be vindictive and mean, but I'm of the mind that all comes from upbringing.

I'm a cat man, I loves them.

Like dogs, I think it comes down to your cat breed/attributes/upbringing. I have four cats:
Two are indoor/outdoor, kinda skittish but still enjoy being pet when *they* want to be. They have a tendency to ignore us.
Two were bottle fed by our family and are not allowed to go outside on their own. They are extremely affectionate. One shadows my sister and the other is kind of attached to me. They always want to be around the family, be a part of things, etc. The one who sticks with me is, by far, the best pet I've ever had. I'm pretty sure I will never see his equal. :<

I have an indoor/outdoor cat that I bought as a small kitten. He likes me and when I'm around he'll ask to be petted and cuddled if he's so inclined. As an independent person myself, I prefer that sort of attitude to the dependent nature of dogs.

I always saw dogs as sort of the weak man's entourage. People who aren't important in life like dogs because they will heel at you like other people will if you are important.

Cats are independent. The won't follow you around and look to you mostly for what benefits them. People who own cats don't need the name sort of assurance that dog owners do.

Dogs too are good for people without power because they can be manipulated. Dogs are more human like, just lower class of human such that the owner's status is higher with the dog than it is in real life.

Humans are more doglike

Dogs operate in very social packs, their structure is somewhat similar to ours, they look up to and respect their leader, if their leader fails and shows weakness they take over.

Cats live in loose social groups when wild. That's a lot like humans as well. And not every human wants or has a clear pack leader.

You are clearly too young or not in touch with yourself. I don't like general "rules of thumb", but if you look deep enough, you may end up knowing better.

i love cats, having owned a bunch, i can say that having a cat beats having a dog due to many cats having canine-like personalities.

I have a cat, two dogs, and a pig. Why must you be constrained to one pet?

I have eight ferrets, three cats, and a bearded dragon.

Anyone doubting this is invited to help me clean up after the ferrets.

This is the other dog, she is an attention whore and pushes the big one around. I have no idea how many different dogs were involved with getting this combination, but she's the best dog I've ever had.

I don't have a picture of the pig, but I can take one later.

I support cats they are very nice

I think there are dog people and cat people. I've been around some very nice cats but I just don't care for them that much, and they don't really care for me (it's not like I would hate them either, though). I've also been around dogs alot and I like them alot. It could be the fact that dogs are easier to understand and to work with. I like the fact that I can do things with my pet and it enjoys it too. You just don't do much WITH cats, you do things FOR them.
>>84359
I agree with you. People have same kind of social rules as many animals that live in a pack. Although our rules are quite complicated and subtle, but they do excist. I guess that is one reason why people like dogs so much.
>> Anonymous
I guess I would prefer dogs over cats but I do like them both. But with a dog comes more responsibility because of the social structure of canines. If you arent the alpha then they will try to be. I like cats because they dont give 2 shits but I cant stand when people who have dogs that do whatever the fuck they want like tear uyp furniture and just general assholes

I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.

Bullshit. All animals treat us equally, but some animals treat us more equally than others.

I love cats! People always say cats are aloof, but that really depends on the personality of your cat. Some cats want to follow you around, sit on your lap, and be with you constantly. Some don't. I've known more affectionate cats than aloof cats.

Also, I've never had a cat stick its head in my crotch, which puts them higher than dogs in my book.

I prefer cats over dogs. I have found cats to need less maintenance but, still play and want to be loved.

>>85113

From my experience I have found fixed female cat to be aloof. While fixed males always want to be around people.
>> Anonymous
>>85119

I have a male and a female cat, both fixed

Female is much more attention-seeking, loves to be petted and brushed.. Male still likes to be petted, but not picked up, and will follow around whoever is home.

Oh come on. Any animal can treat you as an equal depending on its personality and the way you treat the animal.

That is, pets. Not wild animals, they'll just go away.
