Fuck the breast cancer association.
I'm not going anywhere until we get prostate cancer ribbons.

Cancer is cancer. It all goes to the same place: the wallets of the people in the drug industry.
You know if they actually found a cure they sure as hell wouldn't release it. It makes far too much money to let people suffer from cancer than to treat it.

You're an idiot. They already have effective treatments for some forms of cancer (not cures, mind you), and they are far more profitable than waiting for charitable donations to research.

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd float down to the sea

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd say just what you pleased
Without the sticky little kitten
Your ticket could never be free

Without your tight little denim
Your virtues would all go unknown
Without the room that you live in
Your cancer would eat through the bone

Your muscles would bulge underground
Your demons would all be around
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd burn all these dying leaves

Without the pretty pink ribbon
You would lift this steaming herd
You would kill all the sick ones
You would bury them deep in the earth

Without the tight little denim
Your virtues would all go unknown
Without the room that you live in
Your cancer would eat through the bone

Your muscles would bulge underground
Your demons would all be around
Without the pretty pink ribbon
You'd end up just like me

Lemme put it this way. Even if there was a cure-all for cancer, they would make sure it's so expensive it'll never be available except for privileged people. Insurance sure as hell wouldn't cover it either.
I mean look at the HPV vaccine that's supposed to help prevent cervical cancer. I paid $600 a year for insurance and it wasn't covered by them. The vaccine costs a total of $900 as well. How does that work?
I actually had to get my state's equivalent of medicaid to cover it even though I already have expensive insurance. I figure I would have been better off just not having bought the insurance to begin with.
I've grown very bitter about the state of medicine in this country. It's a complete scam.

A few weeks ago the Indian high court threw out various lawsuits against pharmacological companies allowing them to make cheap copies of pretty much any drug on the market. Basically whatever medicine you need will be available for next to nothing in the next ten years.

Don't waste your money on that bullshit. Most americans have some form of HPV already. If you've had chickenpox you've had (and may still harbor) herpes. That 'vaccine' helps such a tiny tiny amount of people that for the majority it's a waste.

THAT is how they are getting money, convincing you you need it. Don't buy their snake oil.

On the other hand, you'd best believe that the FDA/(relevant authority in your country) only does random inspections of parallel / copy drugs.

Copy manufacturers can and do dilute/falsify cheap OTC or low-importance RX drugs with relative impunity. :/

well then it doesn't help that I never had chickenpox and had to get that vaccine too.

The reason why drugs cost so much here is research behind the drug itself. Not the actual cost of production of the drug which many of you already know. Once that patent wears off other companies are free to copy that recipe and provide it at a much lower cost than the original company. That's why American medicare costs more than, say, Canada. We get our drugs immediately, but at a cost. Canadians get it free, but have to wait the number of years for the patent to wear off. My knowledge of this subject is shaky at best, so feel free to correct me.

On a side note, don't buy into the homeopathic crap. Where the hell do you think the ingredients for actual drugs come from? Not the god damn moon...

Congrats! You are really really lucky. Herpes (specifically the chickenpox/shingles strain) is extremely durable. There is even a specific disease that stems from being a carrier for it. Keep your hands away from other people's ears.

It makes me laugh when morons complain that breast cancer gets more attention than others. Instead of sitting on your ass complaining about how no one ever does anything for prostate cancer why don't you go out and DO SOMETHING TO RAISE AWARENESS OF PROSTATE CANCER!

Oh no, but that's too much work. You'd much rather sit on your ass and whine about how much attention breast cancer gets.

You know, they advise getting the vaccine because it prevents against the TYPES of HPV that cause 75% of cervical cancers later.

Multiple types of HPV. Causes cervical cancer. I will pay $900 to ensure that I don't pay 10-20x that later plus pain and suffering if I get cervical cancer later.

Seriously, stop being so cynical people. American health care has its minuses, to be sure, but also its plusses (no I would not like to wait 3 hours in Canada to see doctor thank you bye bye, or have MORE money taken out in taxes if my company can buy me insurance instead <3). Oh and uh, ever taken a business course? Gotten interested in being in management or marketing or otherwise seen something other than what some TA gave you in Econ 100? Yeah um we business people aren't as bad, unethical or greedy as you make us out to be. Sorry.

I don't agree with OP, but I find it interesting to see a businessman on 4chan - elaborate.

Indeed, patents. And that is exactly why a medicine that has been found to have great potential for eradicating several types of cancer will probably never see the market. It was once patented for a completely unrelated ailment (something to do with mitochondria) and recently found to be effective against cancers. The patent has worn off and it can't be re-patented as a cancer med, so nobody could make big fat profits out of it. Therefore it's highly unlikely any drug company will fund the human trials necessary to get it into the market.

This is not a conspiracy theory. This is the grim reality we all live in.
