Hello /an/, catfood question here.

I used to feed my cats crappy purina food from the grocery store because I was poor, stupid, and uneducated. Now that I know better, I went searching for good food that can fit in my budget and I found Felidae. The ingredients on the back sounded great. So I bought a small bag and did the whole mix a quarter new food with old food, then half and half, then three quarters new with one quarter old- that whole deal. Well, now that the food is mostly Felidae, they sort of pick at it and primarily go after the purina bits still left in there. When I put a piece of purina and a piece of Felidae in front of them, they go after the purina. I have two cats- one male, one female. The male seems to be growing a taste for the food, but my female still doesn't seem to care for it too much.

Should I try to find a different food for them (is eukanuba any good)? Should I just switch back to crappy purina? Should I continue to try Felidae? Ugh.

Close but no cigar.

Keep trying the new food. They'll eat it when they get hungry enough.

its been a while since ive had a cat. what ARE the best foods, and why? is it good to feed them a can of wet at night?

I give my cats occasional wet/pouched food as a little treat. They seem to like it.

Alright, so I'm going to just keep trying the new food. Though my female is being a real bitch about it. She wakes me up in the morning to go to her food bowl where there's already food there for her. She'll bite my hair and paw at my face and meow and generally be as annoying as possible. I try shoving her off the bed when she does it and ignoring her. Anything else I could do?

What's wrong with Purina? It's cheap and my cats like it.

It's mostly corn and filler.

My roommate feeds his cat the chicken soup for the cat lovers soul food, and both cats seem to love it. Don't know specifics, but im assuming it's good for them cause they're happy and healthy.

Cats prefer cheap food because it's sprayed with flavoring to make it palatable. Similar to grape flavoring not really tasting like grape.

No matter what I feed my cats, they throw it up. So I just buy the non-colored stuff so it doesn't stain the carpet.

Damn cats.

From what I've heard, most cats don't prefer Chicken Soup for the Soul. They might eat it and tolerate it, but i've heard of a lot more cats flat-out rejecting it than loving it.

I just put my cats on Taste of the Wild. It's really good quality and my cats love it, I've read that a lot of other cats go crazy for it too. See if your local pet store can order it if they don't have it already. I paid like 23 bucks the other day for a 15 lb bag of it, which will last my cats for ages.

Oh, also, meant to answer your last question: DON'T put them back on Purina. I know lots of cats (probably most cats) eat that or some other, crappier food their whole lives and survive. But it really is fucking terrible. It's not even the meat by-products, which in many cases can be easier for your pet to digest than regular meat. It's the fact that a CARNIVOROUS animal is receiving almost entirely CORN, which is not a meat last time i checked.

I'm just saying, every time a pet owner is converted over to a quality pet food, it's a plus one for the cats of the world. You WILL notice a significant difference in their coat, eyes, energy, weight, and how much their shit smells. I guarantee it. And you can have the satisfaction of knowing you're not feeding your cat the way America feeds its children.

Also, yes Eukanuba is not too bad. Not amazing, but definitely way better than Purina.
