Hey /an/ can dogs have OCD? For instance my dog doesnt like anyhting in our pool. She doesnt like to swim but if there is something in the pool like a leaf or a toy she will wait patiently until it reaches the edge and pull it out and set it on the ground. Its hilarious when someone puts one of those pool noodles in there and just let it float around and watch her try to get it out because she is a minpin and the noodle weighs almost as much as her.
She also breaks out in hives when we leave on vacation or something. We have had her in a kennel, our nextdoor neighbors, and even house sitters but she still breaks out. The hives eventually go away but take her hair with it so she ends up with tiny little bald spots. I guess its like doggy psoriasis but she never seems to be in pain its just weird. I have told my mom that it is OCD but they dont think dogs can have it.

So /an/ what do you think?

pic unrelated but looks like my dog

Dogs can have OCD, but it's usually the sign of a bigger problem (often neurological). Things like chasing the tail, or continuous paw licking can be a sign of OCD. However, waiting for toys to float by doesn't sound like an OCD problem.

As for the hives/hair loss...maybe it's demodex, which is a form a mange that can break in dogs in stressful environments. Again, I don't know what your dog's specific problem looks like so I can't really know for sure. However, it sounds like a stress issue since it happens when you guys leave.
