I hear pigs make good pets. Is this true?

Yes, and when they die you can eat them (unless you're Muslim or Jewish)

They're smart and loyal like dogs and can use litter boxes. They're actually quite clean unless it is hot out and then they wallow in mud, but they hardly object to being hosed down and are excellent swimmers.

However they tend to be short tempered and will wreck your garden if let be since they love truffles. they have small lungs and are prone to pneumonia.

I've heard stories where pigs were trained to act as sheep dogs, like that Whilbur movie, and even jump into lakes to save a drowning boy. I personally took my pet boar Strider and pot bellied pig Petunia with me camping and wound up with a bucket of truffles and crawdads.

Boars and hogs are huge, Pigs are too, but wild pigs tent to be a lot smaller and have longer legs. Pot bellied pigs are often bred to be small like certain dogs. If you're worried about feeding them mine lived off of dog food, orange peels, egg shells, coffee grounds, spent tea leaves and occasionally I'd buy them Portabelo steaks for a treat.
