Dear /an/. There is a lovebird in our backyard that I assume has gotten loose lest he decided to take a trip from Africa. We've been putting out food for him for the last few days, but we're afraid that he might get attacked by another bird (greedy blue jays and a hawk or two) or one of the many cats in our neighborhood.

Does anyone have any advice as to how to catch him?

get a net and sneak up behind him

I caught an escaped love bird by setting up an old birdcage, put some birdseed under it, and braced it up with a stick. The ol' box trap. It went under the cage to eat the seed and I pulled the stick and WAM, caught it.

you'd be mistaken to think that about lovebirds.

recently in the US, they have had an outbreak, in my neighbour hood there are groups as large as 90-100 and those are the large groups.

love birds are extremly aggressive and won't take shit from blue jays or even hawks, they will act in a group effort and attack a hawk if its in there territory. i have seen them do it to ravens and other large birds.

Well, most birds are monogamous and mate for life. The reason for that, both partners can take care of the eggs, and that's what they do.

People used to think this about one species of bird, but then they did DNA tests on them.

It turns out that half the baby birds in a colony were not being raised by their real fathers. All the females cheated, and nobody realized until we invented DNA testing.

My mother said to catch budgies, put a white bedsheet down on the lawn with a lot of seeds. That will attract it's attention.

Set up a bird cage with lovebird food in it. Leave the biggest door open. Keep watch over it from a window. When you see it go inside the cage run out real quick and shut the door on the cage. When you run out it will fly wildly around the inside of the cage but it's very unlikely that it will find the door in it's panic.

I'm assuming you're trying to imply something. Would you mind clarifying?

If all the females cheated, how is it possible half the males were raising their own chicks? Learn2logic.
