can't blame the cat, sadly. They're hunters with the reason to hunt taken away by people who pamper and feed 'em, and they just don't know what to do with all the instincts.
If people want to try to take the cat out of the cat by sticking it in a house, then they really need to do it all the way and take responsability for them.
Letting cats outdoors is a pretty bad idea, anyway. There are a lot of nasty diseases and dangers that face outdoor kitties, and they generally live much shorter lives.
Those presents they kill, eat half of and leave about, as sweet as it is that they try to feed us like that, can harbor some nasty diseases and parasites that we can get as well as them.
If you love your kitty, and you love critters, keep 'em inside with you. Provide them with toys and things to climb on, and they'll be happy.
