Identification needed... Anonymous
Hey /an/ I need halp

Today on the way back to my dorm I found this little lizard/salamander thing that was brown and had a prehensile tail. I live near the beach in Southern California if that helps. I need to identify it 'cuz I accidently loose in the room el oh el. I hope it's not poisonous or anything, and maybe I can bait it if I know what it eats. Thanks for any help. :(((((

Well I don't think it was completely prehensile, it could wrap around my finger..

Prehensile tail? Sounds like a chameleon.

If it's a lizard, chances are it'll go after some mealworms. Pick up a few from a pet store, put them in a bowl and I'm sure the lizard will eventually show up.

"lizard/salamander"? Either it was a lizard or it's shrivelled up under your furniture.

If the lizard DOESN'T show up, he'll have an adorable beetle infestation instead!

Unless it was a chameleon, it wasn't prehensile.

It's probably not poisonous, whatever it is. Why do you think it was a salamader? Did it have wet looking skin? Did you find it very near the water? How big was it? Salamanders are very different from lizards, and usually look 'wet' and have a rounded face.

If it was brown and in SoCal, most likely it was an alligator lizard. They're harmless and like to hang out in gardens. Did it have visible scales or what?

MOAR INFO IN THE FUTURE THANKS.

If the OP is smart enough he'll toss them outside if he doesn't find the lizard. But hey, I guess I was giving him too much credit.

After looking at some pictures I'm thinking it was looking more like a skink as the feet were small and the tail was very long. Buuutt...

I don't think the tail was prehensile, but it was extremely long and when I put the tail on my finger it would wrap around it, kind of. I found it near some ivy, but there was a sewer nearby and a garden with a pond... It was brown, and small, so it was most likely a baby(explaining why it had scales visible, but not rough yet perhaps?). It was probably a little over a centimeter thick and I don't recall how long it was...

Now that I look at pictures of the alligator lizard that was probably it. Though it didn't have markings of any kind...

Sorry for little info, I only had it for 3 minutes before it got loose =_=;

Wait does this mean I'll have a beetle infestation if I can't find it and it dies in my room?!
