More like "Curiousity killed the squirrel"

Same happened to a squirrel that fell into a filed trashcan at my house.

...I smell trolls, but none the less.. I can think of plenty of reasons to have buckets such as this.

Imagine the squirrel trying to escape the watery death, but it couldn't jump because of the water. If only the waterlevel was a little higher, but no. The guy who put the bucket there desided to leave it under the porch while it was raining! The squirrel couldn't rest for a second, it had to struggle to breathe every few seconds. In the end the squirrel gave up and went under, accepting its cruel fate.

I'd bet its last thought was about the pinetree were it was raised a long time ago.
