So /an/, after talking all night with a friend of mine I want to get a kitten. How much would it cost getting a basic run of the mill breed kitten with all of the adds (litter, toys, carrier, etc.....) I make about 200$ a week and am trying to do the math to see if I can get one comes my next paycheck. Pic Related

if you adopt one from the pound or a shelter then it is like 75 to 80 bucks. but if you buy from a breeder then it will cost a shit ton. you have more than enough to get one since after the food and adoption fee and litter ours was 120 dollars

oh yeah, the pound usually spade/neuters them before you can have them, and usually they have most of their shots already

The first few vet visits are kinda expensive (checkups, shots, fleas, etc.), especially if you get a kitten instead of an adult cat, so make sure to take that into account. Of course, you don't have to take the cat to the vet the day you bring it home. It could wait until the next paycheck.

Or, you could wait until you have a more financially stable situation and can properly take care of an animal without having to worry about if you can afford it. What will you do if it gets sick or injured? Very few veterinarians accept payment plans now, since so many irresponsible pet owners (probably much like you) renege on their bills.

If you are concerned whether or not you can afford it, DON'T GET IT. You are selfish, and that cat is better off going home with someone else or being euthanized.
