Waiting for my ootheca to hatch :|
WHY ARE THEY SO CUTE? :3
woah they come in pink!
how do evolution know what flowers is?
i found one on my mailbox a while back. I caught it, kept it in a cage and fed it eggs. I knew it was female cause it didnt try to fly away and it laid an egg sack.unfortunately, crickets somehow got on the eggsack and began eating it so im not sure if anything will hatch now.I live in Wisconsin and its April 21st, when can I expect this to hatch and what should I do when it does if I want to keep a couple as pets?
>>238082um, thats supposed to be crickets, not eggs. :P
>>238083If they hatch get either a plastic, glass box or something similar to keep them in, they will be tiny and will escape if there are any holes, feed the nymphs tiny bugs such as newly hatched crickets. If you keep more than one they will probably end up eating each other. As for when it will hatch, it depends on the species and conditions, it could be from a few weeks to a few months.

I used to be fucking terrified of praying mantises when I was a kid. Bugs in general too, but praying mantises were the real killers. Now I love them. No idea how that happened. OP's is fucking gorgeous, by the way.

What all is needed to keep a pet mantis? And how do you get food for them?
>>238197The eat life food, crickets, mealworms, locusts, mice, etc.If you don't want to feed them live food an alternative is to put raw meat on a string, I've never tried it but all the guides recommend it.
the owner of the lovely african mantid. R.I.P :(
>>238202MICE?!
for buying mantis and info on how to keep them, just check this site, its all you need really, they're not too difficult pets to look after, however they are very shortlived, 6 months lifespan average and most mantids out of petshops are already a good 2/3 months oldhttp://exoticpets.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=exoticpets&cdn=homegarden&tm=6&f=00&su=p284.8.150.ip_&tt=11&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//www.mantiskingdom.com/
