Just remembered the animal board Anonymous
I got a call from my dad. He tells me that my cat, Blacky had come home. This thrilled me as Blacky had been missing for like a month. Then he tells me that he's hurt. He's covered in cuts. And worst of all, his eye is dangling from the socket.

So now I've made it home and

a) I don't know where Blacky is because my dad wouldn't let him in the garage like that.

b) Even if I do find him I don't have the money to take him to the vet. All my friends are dirt poor and my dad paid for my last cat to get patched up. He can't spend any more on the cats.

He thinks I should put the cat down. What do you guys think I should do.

Picture highly unrelated I suppose.
>> Anonymous
At least take him to the vet. They might be able to save his eye.

>>b) Even if I do find him I don't have the money to take him to the vet. All my friends are dirt poor and my dad paid for my last cat to get patched up. He can't spend any more on the cats.

Keep your cats inside for fuck's sake. This does not happen to them if they are inside.

I second taking it to the vet. If nothing but for the eye. Poor cat.

I know, I didn't want to put them out, but they love it outside and they are very big cats and very wild when they get bored. I have to put them out.
>> Anonymous
Take it to the humane society or animal control. They'll either have the vet patch him up and adopt him out to someone who can properly take care of a cat or they properly euthanize him.

>>296613
Ok, that's a good idea. If he comes home I'll try to make him comfortable and I'll look into those options.

They know it's not safe out there. They were raised into a wild area. They go outside and clearly show that they are enrvouse when they hear a noise. Yet, even though they are scared they want to be outside more than they fear the outside.

I can't keep them couped up inside all day. That would be cruel.

I just feel bad because he can live a long happy life if I can get him to a vet soon. However, after making several calls there are no overnight vets. He's going to have to stay here tonight, but I can't bring him inside because of my dad.

Tomorrow every vet within 20 miles will be closed [you'd think one would stay open on sundays just because nobody is] which means I'm not certain he could get treated until monday if I was able to come up with money.

And to make matters worse this woman was a fucking bitch on the help line for a local vet.

Basically this is what is going on. I think it happened a few days ago now that I see it. The blood is mostly dried and he seems very skiny, so I think he's been hiding somewhere nursing his wounds. I gave him dry food and he wont eat that...but wet food he went right for.

It's so gross. I don't know how I'm going to go through work tomorrow, but I have to go so I can afford to get him patched up.

You're an idiot.

"Booooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!"

Cats come in three flavours: Borderline feral, lazy housecat, and something in between. Yes, many cats tend to average the former or the middle. Then you let them outside, they murder all the local wildlife, get into fights, spawn feral spawn and then die quickly under a car. Yah, it's terrible to let a free spirited animal live out its life indoors. Better to let it die horribly under a car wheel, eat poison, etc.

Alternative: get a breed engineered for the indoors, adopt an older, calmer animal from a shelter, get a kitten and never, ever let it outside so it doesn't know what it's missing. Or alternatively, DON'T GET A FUCKING ANIMAL YOU CAN'T TAKE CARE OF. A cat is a domesticated animal. Its instincts are more complete than a dog's, but it's still a little life experience shy of being able to take care of itself completely.

Fucking idiots.

Here's a great tip: save up some money from all that crystal meth you use so that YOU CAN AFFORD TO FUCKING CARE FOR YOUR PETS. It's really not that hard once you try. my cat is strictly indoor and she could care less i got her as a kitten and never let her out. i can leave my door WIDE open and she just waits at the door for me.
op, u make me fucking SICK people like you should not have animals, or at least nothing more then a pet rock. if you cant afford care and u REALLY want a cat, dont fucking put out out common sense! becouse more often then not, something bad WILL happen to the animal and it will need some sort of vet care eyes can be put back, if its cought right away. the eye is probably dead ow and most likely agonizing pain, and you are worried about "how bad you feel at work" ALL vets have emergency hours, and if u cant afford it, drop him in front of the door in a box and ring the bell........ AND NEVER GET AN ANIMAL AGAIN !!!!!!!!! AND THEN KILL YOURSELF

I HATE YOU

oh man, that sucks. my cat went missing a week ago but appeared today unharmed but a bit skinny. and is currently sitting on my lap :)
>> Anonymous
Idiot.
The fact that you are poor, and you can't afford a vet is proof enough that you fail as an owner.
There's proof right in front of you that you should have never let it outside, the poor thing's eye is dangling out and it's suffering. If you're a good pet owner, or even a decent one, it's common sense to know that if you let a cat run outside, it'll probably get hurt.
And don't go defending yourself saying that you would rather have it outside, free. Having a pet means that you take full responsibility of it and you'll CARE for it dumbass. Not to mention that if you let it outside, you should be well aware of the dangers EVEN if the cat likes being outside.

But whatever, everything I write here will probably go through your ears and you'll just say that you want it to run around and be free. Or else it'll be suffering.
So when you say that, just realize, that you shouldn't have gotten a damn cat in the first place. Let this be a lesson that you 1) suck as an owner, and 2) can't afford a cat.

So the best option is to take it to a humane society, and have them take care of it. They'll probably put it down, but it's free and it doesn't cost a penny-not to mention that your cat will finally stop suffering. Don't ever ask "He thinks I should put the cat down. What do you guys think I should do"

IDIOT. How old are you anyways?
>> hypothetical /k/ommando
>>296685

Actually, it'll go through his eyes.

I'd never let my cat(s) out, presuming I had any, but I know a fairly even proportion of people who keep their cats indoors to those who let them go outside. I don't know. The outside world is dangerous, but if the cats aren't raised primarily indoors, they won't be happy completely indoors. I've seen it for myself.

Leashes don't work well. I guess a fenced-in yard and supervision is okay, though.
>> Anonymous
You fucking white trash piece of shit...quit making excuses and quit projecting emotions and motivations onto your fucking cat. Yeah I'm sure he really APPRECIATES you letting him be a free spirit. Fuck off and die, and for fuck's sake take care of that thing.

Oh and don't pollute /weed/ anymore you asshole.
>> Anonymous
I still don't get this "keep your cat indoors" shit. My cats have always lived outdoors. We live on a busy road and have a back garden for them to go nuts in. They come in a little during the winter but in the summertime they prefer to stay out. The worst that's ever happened is one of them got into a fight with a fox. The fox lost. They're neutered and occasionally piss off my mother by peeing on her lillies. But apart from that they've never run away, never been hurt, never hit by a car. Next march they'll be 16. If outdoors cat = short life, then boy, we must just be really lucky. I'll start playing the lottery.
>> hypothetical /k/ommando
>>296716

To be fair, you only hear about the bad shit, you know? I think most people have a positive outdoor cat experience. But as soon as nature happens, they become bloodthirsty zealots who vehemently oppose your choices.

They're your cats, do what you want with them.

60% of /an/ is made up of people who think animals are somehow the equals of humans. But that's a whole 'nother can of worms right there that DOESN'T need opening. People should just mind their own damn business, for the most part.

OP my local vet (we are verry regular customers on account of my cats (3brothers) have a hiredatary kidney problem) they let us pay after the op when we get money sadly after 5 ops between them (costing around £300 each op and the max £700) we had to get one put down, the vet did this for free as were were out of money over the christmas piriod. my point is just exsplain ur situation to them and they will help you.
>> Anonymous
i personally would never put my cat out, but i know there is always two sides to everything and im not completely anti outdoor cats. what i am against is retards owning animals. if you cant afford having an emergency with your animal dont have an outside animal (or more preferably no animal at all) of course anything could happen even in the house, but when you stick your cat outside you are ASKING for trouble!!! op i hope you bring it to a shelter and they wake you w/ cruelty to animals for letting it go long. i hope a neighbor sees ur cat and calls animal control and you can never own an animal again. you are not really wrong for letting your cat out what you are wrong for is not taking care of your responsibility as a pet owner. you are a bad human and you need to be punished for letting your poor cat suffer w/ a wound that is undoubtedly agonizing pain. i hope you lose an eye and have to deal w/ it dangling there for a week or so .... DIE
>> Anonymous
OP, your punishment should be working every day of your life at a shelter full of animals that keep coming in that are injured because idiots like you let them roam the neighborhood which they should not be doing. I would love for someone like you to see how many of them come back maimed. I also wish people like you were forced to work with actual local wildlife so you could see the amount of death caused by your shitty cats and dogs. Fuck humans and their stupid shit with letting domesticated animals that have no business roaming neighborhoods, out to fuck everyone else's shit up.
>> Anonymous
I owned a cat when I lived in Hawaii and I let her outside. She comes back every couple hours for food but unlike this dumbass of an owner, I am well prepared for paying any expenses if my cat does happen to get into trouble.

All cats are different. Some like to be outside, some like to stay inside, some prefer a little of both, and some can defend themselves while others are defenseless. But owners are all the same in only one way: they are responsible.

Cats can't pay their vet bills.

See, if your cat happened to run away and came back harmed and you can't afford to get her fixed, I'll sympasize with you since it was out of your control. HOWEVER, you support letting your cat out, knowing fully well (unless you're mentally retarded) that there is dangers out there. So, the situation is completely different now-you just made a boo boo and you can't seem to fix it that well.

So I suggest what someone else suggested, go to the humane soceity. Not only do they do it for free, but the office for incoming animals is always 24 hours. You really have no choice, you can't afford to help your pet with surgery so help your pet out by ending it's misery.

Just remember that you kinda murdered your own damn cat.

Oh and maybe you can even understand this example: you don't get what you want if you can't afford it such as a kid. If you can't afford a kid, you don't get one. Duh. Same goes for pets, objects, and random crap.
>> hypothetical /k/ommando
>>296726

I agree with this.

Some other people ITT, however, need to calm down. Getting extremely worked up over this kind of thing seriously puts into question your own mental faculties. I wish more people were less emotionally tied to animals, and more emotionally tied to their fellow man.
>> Crazy Cat Lady
>>296607
dearest OP,
i can't help but want to agree w/ some of these people, but i've been in the same boat as you. my family has always been known as a place for ferral or homeless cats to go. Sure, we don't have money to take our cats to the vet every single fucking time they get hurt, but you know what? we provide a safe, warm home w/ food and shelter for up to 14 cats, and they can come and go as they please. (which have been fixed before all you psychos get on my ass) so at least these cats are gettin as good of a life as they can w/out bein in a shelter their whole life.
try to call your local SPCA they almost always have a 24/7 hospital, they'll charge out the ass but you can always work out a "story" about how you kinda just started feeding this stray and then it came back like that.
i hope everything works out, but the outlook looks bleak. good luck!

There sure is one faggot in this thread that likes to use the word idiot and it's variants. I really have to question their mental caliber considering their inability to come up with something synonymous.

I would imagine that a vet would be able to treat the eye to a point where your cat could be able to live. There are plenty of happy kitties out there with vision problems and unfortunately your cat will have to make the adjustments to that type of lifestyle. You should keep your pet a bit closer, generally if your cat tends to be prone to these type of scenarios maybe it's a bit too domesticated to survive out in the wild for such long periods of time. Especially when you consider the new eye problem it would be best to keep him indoors for quite some time to see how he adjust. Good luck and keep your cat comfortable please, show as much affection as you can while you wait a chance to see a vet and have his wounds properly nursed.

OP here

I thought about replying to every retard in this thread, but since they all boil down to 2 basic arguments I'll just reply to them all at once.

>1. BAAAAWWWWWW CATS SHOULD BE LOCKED AWAY INSIDE WHERE THEY ARE SAFE FROM EVERYTHING.

a) Cat's are not completely domesticated. They may act sweet and calm, but inside beats the heart of a wild hunter. This is even stronger in my cats who were born and raised outside. They are not house cats, they are large, country cats. The need space, fresh air, and exercise which are all things that can't be provided inside of my house.

b) It's not like I live in the city where danger lurks around every corner. I live in the country where there are very few dangers to a cat. Hell, my oldest cat has lived for nearly 10 years as an outdoor cat and she's never come home with more than a scratch or two.

c) Being inside would actually be more dangerous than being outside. Powercords, phone cords, ethernet cables, etc are all over our house and these cats have a habit or attacking anything string like. Or maybe their habit of eating anything they find that can be chewed up would be the cause. Cat's get into all kinds of trouble when they are bored and unsupervised.

Field too long, so I'm gonna split it into three posts.

>2. YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE CATS IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD THEM.

You all know damn well that shit happens. Some asshole slashed my truck's tires and broke the driver side windown a couple weeks back and when I got my check I had to replace that. On top of that they've been cutting hours at work this month because sales are down.

What do you people expect me to come home one day and decide that because I have a couple extra bills I should drop my cats off at the animal shelter because I can't take care of them.

This morning I took a trip down to the local pawn shop where I parted with an item that meant quite a bit to me so I can save a cat that's probably going to die from an infection in the next couple weeks anyways. And I will bet you that the only other person posting on /an/ who can understand how I feel right now is>>296721since he can probably understand how important my grandfathers M1 Garand was to me.

I came home from work tonight and saw my older cat harassing him. I'm fairly certain she's been the one who has been causing all the trouble over the past few months [attacking him and his sister]. She's been out to get these cats since I brought them home, and unfortunately this means I'm going to have to get rid of her...and since nobody really wants a cat that old it means she's probably going to be put to sleep in the end. Makes me sad because I can remember when she and I used to be buddies.

1. Yes, cats are completely and totally domesticated. They are, in fact, a species created through domestication, a species never found naturally in the wild. Domesticated for ten thousand years.

2. Danger lurks everywhere for cats outdoors. Stray dogs. Feral cats. Wildlife. Communicable disease. Traffic, regardless of how sparse. Human cruelty and stupidy. All lethal, and all present in any outdoor
environment, whether urban, suburban, or rural.

How many cats have you heard of dying after chewing an electrical cord? Two or three? How many cats have you seen dead alongside the road, or at the very least heard of just dissappearing? Dozens? Hundreds? Hmmmmmmm.

>How many cats have you heard of dying after chewing an electrical cord? Two or three?
