Howdy people, I've adopted a kitten which is over eight weeks from pets mart and they told me she was a victim of abuse. the kitten will usually run away from me if I approach her the wrong way, move too quick or generally do anything around her, it makes her sketchy. The question I have is, is this kitten having trust issues? will it ever warm up to me? or is it just getting used to my diggs?

thanks.

how long ago did you adopt? just give her everything she needs and let her be alone until she feels comfortable in your house at least.

She's probably just scared of her new environment. When I adopted my kitten about a year ago, she hid in the basement for a bit, but now she is the most loving little cat I've ever had. Your cat probably needs to build up a little trust, so just take it easy. I'm sure as long as you show her love and attention when she wants it she'll warm up to you

Time heals all wounds. This applies to animals as well.

it takes alot of time for abused animals to get over the fact that humans did physical and emotional pain to them. you just need to be extremely patient with the cat and really try not to startle it. also cats are animals who feel most comfortable with a routine life style. so its probably still getting use to your home and figuring out what your all about and what your habits are.

think of it as if a human were abused...people have a hard time getting over abuse no matter how much they know they are out of the situation. its harder for animals to understand this concept because you cant explain to then like you could to a human being. good luck OP.

ignore the idiot above.... just treat her like a king, feed her until he/she is full give it her own space, and when she warms up to you just put it in her pooper and start all over again!!!

Uh...I did pretty much the same thing, but with a kitten that was a little bit older. It's been years and years, about 10, and he's still skittish as fuck. I wasn't able to pet him at all until a few years ago.

Just speak very quietly around her, don't do anything to startle her and just be kind. One of my cats came from an abusive home when she was a kitten. When I picked her up at the shelter she was very skittish. I've had her now for about 7 yrs and she's still skittish but will sit on my lap and let me brush her/pet her. You just have to be very patient and gentle, she'll come around but it takes time.
