Hey /an/, I have a problem. My Russian Tortoise hasn't been eating much for several weeks now. But, the little bugger has been digging around, being really active as usual. I've tried adding more substrate, but I haven't noticed a difference. Any suggestions?

Mine does this too in the winter sometimes. I don't know why but he eventually gets over it.

Try red or yellow foods.
Try soaking him before you feed.
Add a extra heat source.
And if none of this works, try force feeding him.

I don't know if its the same with tortoises but my box turtles would do that when they were getting ready to hibernate. Just make sure that it has water and offer it food every now and again, I doubt it'll eat but but still. Its just getting ready to hibernate...which is weird, I didn't know tortoises did that

box "turtles" are actually tortoises, they're just misnamed.

tortoises usually hibernate in nature, this is a natural response. He should get over it soon enough, but if he doesn't start eating soon ask a vet or someone with actually knowledge about them.

Box turtles get larger than Russian Tortoises. Also, Snapping Turtles. They outclass most tortoises in size.
