Not caged, "captive." Even if we go with caged, with the possible exception of cats and a few cattle species kept by nomads, most domesticated animals were caged or fenced. Do you think horses, cows, goats, and pigs hung around people because they LIKED being herded and eaten? Even wolves/dogs were kept caged or tethered. How about gerbils, mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters? Sure, they're not "caged," they're free-roaming right?
