How bad is it if I feed my dog human food? I feel sorry for my dog eating dry foods. It's teeth are for chewing and tearing, not grinding...

And wet food just smells gross.

I usually get some cheap beef and rice and mix it around and around.

There is tonnes of info on what to feed your dog out there, especially since the fukkin pet food scandal. You will find plenty of flamewars between people who say that a BARF diet is better than plain dog food, etc. One thing that most can agree on is that some human foods are dangerous for dogs, or just unhealthy. I have some advice for you, but don't want to re-invent the wheel. There are thousands of thick books and millions of Web sites on animal nutrition out there. Search the net for things like - poisonous dog foods. Natural dog nutrition recipes. And so forth. Remember, you don't need to buy a book or spend much time to feed your dog, but you should do quite a bit of research on the Net.

Continued....

Beef and rice is good, but not enough as a staple diet. Never feed your dog "pet meat" as this is sometimes almost pure poison. Some butchers wash rotting meat in bleach and preservatives, which can poison your dog over time. Also, "pet meat" from the supermarket almost certainly has preservatives which can cause deadly vitamin deficiencies. Be mindful of the product recalls and buy a decent brand of dry food, wet food and chilled dog meat sausages in the pet section of the supermarket. Look for products WITHOUT preservatives. Use cooked brown rice, and you can add a bit of washed carrots and raw egg. Apple and banana pieces are a nice snack. Raw chicken necks for human consumption from the butcher are a good treat! It’s better (but unpleasant) if you wash them in hot water first to rinse any great deal of contamination off them. Brisket bones are necessary and good for teeth and all-round health. DO NOT buy normal dog bones as they can splinter and make sure the brisket bones do not have ribs on them, as they can also splinter. You do not need to tell the butcher this is for your dog, as this is human food you can give your pets. If you tell the butcher, they may give you crap, for the same price. Stay away from onions and grapes and sauces, they can be very poisonous, so read about which foods are poisonous foods for dogs. Good luck, and thanks for caring about the diet of you dog, it’s nice to see.

You may want to look into feeding your dog a Raw Food diet instead. You can't give them too much human food and if you're not satisfied with the kibble you're giving him, Raw Food might be the way to go. Only if you research it carefully and know what it entails though.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers selling raw food diets for pets as healthy, when in fact it is contaminated with chemicals, fecal matter and (dangerous) bacteria not normally found in "normal" rotting meat that a dog might eat in the wild.
The best thing is to research and create a balanced diet with human-grade, washed food.
However, there is nothing wrong with using quality pet foods and supplimenting it with quality raw foods as well. I don't know if many people have the time to create a balanced diet for their dogs, let alone themselves. I certainly don't, so I take the second option for my dog.
