And they stink.

A whole lot.

Sometimes they stockpile things in other places. Like your furnace. That happened to a friend of mine.

But they're so cool and smart...

Last christmas I got acquainted with a cat I suspect had ADHD. My first thought was "What, you a ferret or something?" :D

I have a ferret, and its the laziest creature I've ever seen. The damn thing is fat and acts like a cat all of the time. Its a big white bastard and he looks like a polar bear. Any ideas what causes a ferret to be fat and lazy?

Sorry, you got an American ferret instead of the more pleasing European type.

I lol'd.

Though ferrets in general do tend to sleep for 16-18 hours a day with their waking hours completely dedicated to zooming around everywhere exploring and playing and attacking ankles...

American ferrets not as good as European ferrets? What are you, some kind of traitor?

Nah, not really, I've got four of 'em and they don't smell that bad.
But if you're considering getting a ferret, don't get that special ferret food from the pet store, their shit will stink like fuck if you feed it to them.
I just give them kitten food (dry) and lucky charms on a basis.. they're content and it's actually healthy for them.
Most of the time they pick the marshmallows from the cereal and run and hide with it.. kinda funny.

Just like me when I was a child...

Brings back memories.

Ferrets won't bite hard if you train them not to. Do some reading on the subject. Lots of good websites. I have two, and although the young one does bite when she's playing with me, it doesn't even come close to hurting, because she was trained as a baby not to bite hard!

Also, they do get a musky, oily smell, even though they'll have had their scent glands removed. Just change their cage litter often, and DON'T bathe them if you can help it. Bathing them will make their skin make MORE oils, and they'll smell even worse afterward.
