SUDENLY KITTENS.... 3 of them! Anonymous
so a cat and her three kittens have taken up residence in the bushes out side my apt

is this awesome Y/N?

the mother cat is barely bigger than her three kittens. Seeing her so under nourished and having to provide for three extra mouths Ive taken pity and began providing them food and water. Of course my cats not to happy with the new arrivals as this is his turff but he'll get over it.

Currently I cant approach them they are too scared of me and the mother cat just hisses weakly despite not being big enough to scare anyone its kinda cute. Any tips on willing their trust?

you'll have to just leave food and water out for a while before they can begin to trust you.
after a week or tow, sit outside while they eat and drink. they will eventually warm up to you and allow you to pet them. give them a little longer and you can bring them inside.

when you do finally bring them in, do not bring them face to face with your cats for a couple weeks. keep them in the bathroom or other shut-up room, separate from your normal cats. They should have their own food, their own litterbox, etc.

during these two weeks, two things should happen:

you should take them to the vet and get them de-wormed, treat for ear mites, tested for feline leukemia and rabies.. and whatever else the vet suggests.

also during these two weeks, the cats will get to know one another through the crack under the door. they'll sniff, play, etc. and get used to one another.. this minimizes the chance of "house full of pissed off cats" syndrome that happens when you immediately introduce a new cat to a house.

I had an indoor/outdoor cat that actually left us for a neighbor when we inherited our grandmother's cat.

could you honestly afford the vet bills for 4 extra cats? what if any number of them need expensive care? you could easily fall thousands in the hole.

I have no intension of brining them in I am simply feeding them because I love cats want to get them on their feet. The mother is finally starting to look more healthy. When I began feeding her I thought she was a kitten it wasn't until 3weeks later I saw she had three kittens.

At first I gave her all the food she wanted since she was so weak and boney now I ration it out so they have to learn to hunt as well. Perhaps I shouldn't try to get them used to people as I intend to let them be stray, I know some folks dont like strays due to their impact on the ecosystem but to me the animals they keep at bay are varmints and I dont miss them. I know at least my efforts have prevented her from having to cut loose one of the kittens due to inability to feed them

Well at least give them to the Humane Society... =\

I'd only give them to a no kill shelter but I honestly dont understand why people think cats living in the wild is a bad thing. Perhaps it may enable a better life but the shelter is full of cats myself I dont believe the only way to a happy life for an animal is though domestication

Wild cats are fine. Wild cats breeding is not. If you can, get them fixed. There may be a university or school or something that will do it supercheap/free.

Do stuff that may interest them. Crinkle candy wrappers and such.

awww definitely take care of them, that's so sad. It's hot too, well, at least it is where I am, but my point is make sure there's water all the time, and food as well. get an old blanket or something for them to sleep on or provide some sort of shelter. give the mother the occasional tiny bit of lunch meat or milk, they love that shit.

Next time you go to the store, buy a little can of that canned chicken cat food stuff and treat her to it when you feed her next. Give her some milk every once in a while ( not too much, she'll get sick ) Maybe take some cotton balls and ball them up into one big one and wrap it in fabric and sew it shut, then throw it to her and the kittens. If you keep playing with her, she'll call your apartment home and trust you.

Because you've got a pretty good chance of roadkill kitty that way. Doesn't matter how smart they are, outside cats always manage to get run over eventually.

I know, my kitty got ran over.

LOL enjoy your feral untameable cat infestation.

OP, it's commendable that you want to save the cats, but unfortunately you are an idiot.

Either take proper care of these cats or kill them now. If you just think that feeding them outside will do, think again. There will be at least 12 cats within the year, and how do you figure they will get food? Are you trying to breed your own cat army?

Either get them vaccinated and fixed, or stop feeding them altogeher. It comes with responsibility.

Cats are cute, but violent; they tend to kill all smaller creatures. In some places, that's not a problem, but in other places, animals go extinct.
