hey /an/onymous, is it true cats really don't like it when you rub or touch their stomach? i've heard of cats flipping the fuck out when their bellys were touched
>> Anonymous
depends, most don't like it I guess, but I heard that some do.

when your cat flips over on its back and exposes its stomach, it just means your cat is comfortable enough to do so.

but all my cats hate being touched there and will tear my hand to shreds.

My grey tabby doesn't mind, she just kind of sits there.

My fatass orange tabby loves it, when I'm scratching him he'll roll on his back so I can rub his tummy.

Here they are being adorable.

some hate it. one of mine is fully tame and you can do what you like. it loves having its belly rubbed, and will flop down and turn itself up for that very purpose. pic related, cat led upside down on my lap.

One of the snailkittens LOVES having his stomach rubbed. I attribute it to my habit of rubbing their stomachs after a meal when they were little, so he associates tummy rubs with happiness, bonding, and comfort. The other snailkitten will tolerate it, but does not roll over and purr like his brother.

My kitty will turn over when nobody else is around because she isn't comfortable with anyone else but me. Then again she was ferral.

My female kitty (the fatty in the photo) loves getting her stomach rubbed. I think it has something to do with the fact that she is a female cat, who would normally have a litter of kittens kneading her stomach every year or so. Of course being a fixed cat, she has never felt that, but you'd think it would have to feel pleasurable or relaxing to a mommy cat, so that she'll let the kittens do that day after day.

My tom at best only tolerates it, and from nobody else but me. If my mom tries to touch his belly, he'll start clawing and biting fiercely.

all cats love having their stomachs rubbed. one way to ensure it is to engage it in play. chase it around until it's hyper and whatnot, and finally it'll just lay down. plop down randomly exposing its tummy with its tail wagging happily with anticipation. you can tell it's happy by the thumping noise it makes on the ground! then you're pretty much free to just touch its fuzzy underbelly and even its chin.

>>and even its chin.

EVEN its chin? I though all cats loved to have their chin rubbed/scratched.

My cat loves having its tummy rubbed. She's also okay with being used as a pillow.

When I first got my cat, she loved having tummy rubs. She's gained some weight now and has a wagging tumsack and refuses to let me touch it anymore unless we're playing vigorously. Can cats even GET self-conscious about their weight?

I've never encountered a cat that didn't.

One of my cats absolutely hates it when her stomach is touched. The other one doesn't mind usually, but he's really cuddly and sweet.

my cat will go nuts if you try to rub her stomach. she will claw you

i think it's an instinct thing

that would be their weak spot if they were fighting a rat or whatever

In other words: if the cat won't let you rub its tummy, it doesn't trust you.
