I Usually don't lurk on /an/ but i figured this might be the best place to go.You guys probably get a thousand of these advice threads a day, but I recently got a month and a half old tabby kitten about 2 days ago. Been feeding it twice a day about 7hrs apart, and it's not exactly box-trained yet, but whenever it pisses or craps somewhere i put it in a litter box directly afterwards.

tl;dr: Any tips on or advice on feeding and litter box training would be beneficial. Thanks.

some kind/asshole anon correct me if I'm wrong, but most cats come genetically programmed to poop in their own digging madness of litter... perhaps your kitty has an issue of the life-threatening kind if it's pooping/pissing outside of the box?

Yes they are. I'm no expert on the subject but your cat may be too young to want to bury it's stuff... or yeah, was it a feral cat?

Your cat's still a bit too young to be let around anywhere and everywhere in the house. I know it sounds cruel, but he's gotta be locked up in the laundry or something until he can consistently pee in the litterbox.

Clean out the litterbox, put fresh litter in it and put the cat on the litterbox. He'll scratch and paw it for a bit, and once you do this several times, he'll get the idea. Cats naturally bury their shit, and it's only a matter of showing the cat where the nice, soft ,accessible bit of bare earth is.

I find the best way is to put the kitten on the litterbox straight after feeding and straight after waking up. These are the times when they're most likely to do their business.

signed. I have 4 kittens here right now. one about 4 weeks, and 3 about 5 or 6 weeks I'm guessing. (ferals I caught outside)

All four are living in a large (dog) cage right now with a litter box, food bowl, etc.. and all quite happy.. they took to the litter box within a day this way as well, and don't get under foot until they are big enough to roam around without getting into floor vents, or getting squished.

Best advice I have is to move the litter box to where he is going. When my cat was still little, he would go in the darkest, boxed off area in my room. I had to move my bed further from my wall and put the box there until he adjusted.

Eventually, I could move the box where I wanted to, and he got the message. Also, it helps for the box to have a covering of some kind. some place dark and private usually helps. No one likes doing their business where others can watch.

... put some poopies in the litter box.... its odd tho at 6 weeks the mother hadn't trained it to use the box.... also on food... i personally say free feed the kitten until its about 6 months... since its growing it should be able to eat and eat and eat as it pleases. then after that.. give it scheduled feedings
