There's lots of things you can do to prevent getting animals/birds from stealing your fish. You can easily put a netting over a pond, but people don't think that's "pretty" so they just let their fish get eaten. Go figure. A pond takes a LOT of work and you need it to be at least 3' deep if you ever have freezing weather. Koi can get to be several feet so you need to figure in their final size. Sarasa goldfish will get around 10" easily so they're not much of an alternative. If you want koi, you should have a pretty sizable pond/container. Please read up more on pond care/sizing before even thinking of getting fish. You are sure as hell never going to get a full, informative post personalized just for you on a forum. Please search on google or something.
On a side note, people seem to think they can plunk goldfish into anything, no matter how small the container. Please don't set your fish up for death after long periods of abuse.
