Calling all catfags. I'm wondering if your cats do this. Put your finger on their nose, and they'll push their head forward, making your finger rub their whisker pouch, or somewhere else on their head.

Do they do this? Is this common? What's the point of this?

Its saying "PLEASE LET ME OUTSIDE, DONT LISTEN TO THESE /an/FAGS!"

Thats why cats are the pets and humans the master, because they aren't winning any noble prizes

They are actually showing you some affection, dickweed.....

Well, I would guess the first reason is that they don't want you touching their nose. Cats can't focus their eyes on things that close in front of them either.

Second reason is they're just showing affection, or using the opportunity to get a nice scratch.

But yes, it is common. Pretty much every cat does it.

On a related note, why do cats freak the fuck out when you scratch the base of their tail and back?
>> Anonymous

This. They also have a scent markers in their saliva that they'll use to mark territory ie. rubbing their faces on wall edges and etc. You're part of its territory as well.

By freak the fuck out, would you mean something like the cat starts licking invisible things in the air until you stop?

Because my cat did that when I scratched her there and it freaked me the fuck out.

I should note though, that I did this to another cat, and it didn't do shit.

A lot of nerve endings in the base of their tail. Neck, probably just feels good, man.

I'd like to think when they move their head like that (because mine do it too) they're going 'No, ...goddammit no! The ears, dumbfuck! The ears! Do I look like I want my nose scratched, you moron? SCRATCH BEHIND THE FUCKING EARS, DIPSHIT."

I fucking love poking my cat's nose. It's possibly my favorite part of the cat. I can't resist poking it every time I walk by.

If memory serves, a cat has scent glands under its ears. It's marking you as property. Don't you feel loved?

I love lots of my property.

Since there are so many anons here who seem to know cats well, I need to ask something.

So, there is this old friend of mine who owns a cat. Five years ago I used to visit said friend and play with the cat a lot. Then the friend and I lost contact of each other for five years, until recently I went to visit her again.

She told me that her cat is usually very afraid of people and won't let anyone pet it. I wanted to pet it anyway, so I did, very slowly of course not to freak out the cat.

The cat then just lazily eyeballed me, sniffed my hand and proceeded to lick it. Could it be that the cat remembered me or my scent from five years ago?

Also, another friends of mine has a cat too, who is also very very afraid of guests. It wont even show up at all, normally, that is.
But as I was visiting them for the first time the cat was perfectly fine with me. It even came to sit in my lap.
Friend and her family were all in complete awe, as the cat usually hates guests.
The friend had visited me many times before, though, so I figured that maybe the cat had gotten used to my scent through my friends clothes? Then it recognized it again?

Do cats have a memory like this? Or do they just randomly like me?

I'm sorry for bad English, I hope you still understand what I'm trying to say.

I've noticed that cats are particularly good at remembering scents, one way people introduce a new cat to an established cat is by mingling their scents, maybe that's why the shy cat was ok with you? Don't know for sure but it's a good possibility. Both of my cats are pretty shy as well but they love my Father-in-law and took to him right away. Maybe they just like you.

On that topic, I am more nervous about meeting people's cats than the people themselves. Not out of any phobia or fear of the cat, but I actually care about the impression I make on the kitty compared to their owner in 99% of cases.

My uncle has a cat who is like that. I remember one time when I was visiting his family for a week I made it a goal to win this cat over. Every time he and I would cross paths I'd be very quiet and still and I'd let him pass by. Always making sure I wasn't doing anything that might scare him. Finally, on the last day he and I crossed paths in the sitting room. I knelt down and we stared at each other, then I called him over. He hesitated for a moment, them meowed and came right over and let me pet him while he purred for several minutes. Then he wondered off.

Sadly, nobody was home at the time to witness it, especially not my uncle who didn't believe me later.

My cats do that a majority of the time. Its really a sign of affection.

My cat does freak out when you do that... He ends up biting me and meowing loudly.

Cats like to rub their head against things they consider awsome or they love. They use the glands in their face to spread a special scent all over it that signals joy.
It is not marking property or terretory. They use urin for terretory marking.

I have one cat that is a total petting nympho, she does all the stuff listed here, she can't even sit still while being petted she has to walk in little loops and smear her scent gland all over me, she even starts drooling. But all my cats raise there asses when I pet the back of their tail.
