I'm thinking maybe keep three or so in a reptarium outdoors and that would be ok.

So what?

My friend set a bunch loose around his outside laundry room and theyve been living there for a few years. Hes in central Florida so thats likely the same (or close enough) temperature zone as where you are.

They are awesome and are hard to tame.

Try getting bit by an adult male.

so this.

They're aggressive as fuck. I would not want to mess with one. They're cool as hell to look at, though...no doubt about that. My friend has(or had?) one.

Its possible to tame them. Just very hard.
I had a friend who had three of them, only one was nice enough to touch and hold without it biting. It still made those loud as fuck noises, but never bit.

Taming lizards is for kids.

I don't really care if I get bitten by an adult male. Unless it's on the face, or some place sensitive like that. My hands are too rough these days to bleed from a tokay bite. Monitors and snakes with long teeth like pythons can still do some damage though. It pisses me off that I have to be so scared and careful when I have to catch little lizards. I used to be able to just slap my hand down at full speed on even tiny house geckos without doing damage.

So they stayed there within the same little area he let them go for years? Did all of them stay there? How many did he let go? What did they eat?

most of them stayed around the laundry room. one or two wandered off into the neighborhood and you could hear em 'tokay' at night. he let a total of about 6 go free. they were there for at least two years but i havent been back for about 3 years so i dont know their current state. he's been living out of state too for about a year too so i cant just ask him. i could ask his mom next time i talk to her but this thread will likely be dead by then. i can only assume what they ate. rodents, frogs, anoles, bugs etc.

Wish i could do that. I don't think there's enough prey to sustain them around here if I were to let some loose. I see the occasional weird flying roach, big katydid, or large moth, but that's about it. All the rest of the bugs are pretty small, and there aren't any other lizards, rodents or frogs around here.
Maybe some moorish gecko's are better suited to the ecosystem around here.

tokays are mean and evil. i worked at a pet store and had to fish them out with a net because they were biting, hissing, and barking at me... little shits. very pretty geckos though.
