What do you think of my two new kittens?

I haven't got names for them right now, so I'm just calling them black and yellow.

Blacky is a boy and yellow is a girl.

They are both 1/8th wild bobcat.

It's generally tolerated if it's in jest or slightly funny.

OP: why do you say they are 1/8 bobcat? My own kittens are such (as their mother is a quarter or so bobcat), with experienced vet opinions as proof. Do you have genetic tests or own the parents or something? It bothers me when I see people with tailess, big, or scruffy looking cats instantly calling them bobcats or mixes.

The owner of the cat that got fucked by the bobcat shot the bobcat as it was trying to escape. Didn't kill it right then, but a couple days later they found the bobcat dead from a gunshot wound.

The 1/2 and 1/4th bobcats both look remarkably like bobcats. They also had more stamina than an ordinary cat and could literally play for hours. Their back legs were much longer than an ordinary cats and pounced more like a bobcat than an ordinary cat [you'd have to have seen a bobcat pounce to really see the difference]. Also, when they get anxious they don't make the noise a cat usually make.

OH, also the half bobcat grandmother was inspected by a cat breeder who wanted a female mate for her pixie bob and offered something like $600 for her.

They didn't accept because they are already multi-millionaires [cattle and almonds] and they don't believe cats should be owned for breeding.

Er. So. This dude shot a bobcat on his land and his cat had kittens soon after? Did he see them making babies? Was he aware a cat can have kittens by different fathers? And he didn't fix the kittens? or those cats kittens? And then wouldn't sell/stud their cat out to a breeder (who they must have contacted because she was "inspected", and I won't even begin to rant on the ethics of that) because they didn't believe cats should be kept for breeding (after letting their cats breed repeatedly)? And they are multimillionaires?

This is bullshit. I know from the smell and having spouted a lot of bullshit.

There's a difference between breeding your cats and letting your cats breed.. These cats have been breeding on their own for about a year...though this will be the last litter they have because the owners fears the back to back litters can't be good for the cat's health.

As do I. It's generally a good idea to keep an eye on your threads, however. It's good to see that you are attempting a conversation, versus devolving like I had expected, or simply ignoring as so many do when I bait them.

I suppose it is possible that the original cats were hybrids. It is still extremely unethical and generally a really shitty idea to breed their cats like that. Did the vet not advise them to fix the kittens? There is clearly enough stock that they did not inbreed, which is a really bad sign.

>There's a difference between breeding your cats and letting your cats breed.. These cats have been breeding on their own for about a year...though this will be the last litter they have because the owners fears the back to back litters can't be good for the cat's health.
And which did your friends or whatever chose? Either they let them breed, which is insanely irresponsible to both the animals and to the environment, or they selectively bred them, which is in some ways worse, as they willfully created more kittens. The "back to back litters" comment indicates they allowed them to breed at will, producing many kittens.. why did they do this? Do they provide good food, shelter, and healthcare for all of the cats? Do they give away the kittens to homes that will sterilize them? Your friends are clearly intelligent enough to be good at business, if they truly are as rich as you say, so surely they are smart enough to understand how irresponsible they are being?
>> Caliche
>>140288
Oh I keep an eye on them, I'm just not the type to obsess with them. You are asking me reasonable wuestions so there's no reason for me to ignore them.

>And which did your friends or whatever chose?
Well, they're not my friends exactly. It's my dad's closest friend. Been friends since highschool...but that's besides the point.

The cats are usually givin out as soon as they reach 6 weeks. The origional cat's owners didn't want any, but they didn't fix them in case people wanted to breed them [half-bobcat would be a rareity]. The same was said about the 1/2 and 1/4th. They decided that it should be up to the new owner to fix them or not.

I really don't understand how this is being irresponsible. They let the cat have kittens knowing that many of their friends would provide loving homes for them.

>The "back to back litters" comment indicates they allowed them to breed at will, producing many kittens.. why did they do this?

Well, these cat's have actually become pregant within weeks of having kittens. They haven't wanted to get them fixed when they have kittens inside them until now. However, because they fear for the cat's health and because they are running out of possible homes they have decided that this is the LAST litter whether the cat is pregnant or not.

>Do they give away the kittens to homes that will sterilize them?
Like I said, they leave that up to the next owner. Generally they do have them sterilized, but they aren't forcing it. [I'm getting the male fixed within a few months and I'm going to let the female have a litter first, but I already have homes lined up for them.
>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
>>140301
It's irresponsible because there are already cats that need homes. Every cat that isn't fixed adds more cats, which add more cats, which add more cats, etc. Instead of creating more cats, they should have referred them to a local shelter or breeder with existing kittens. There is nothing wrong with breeding cats for a specific goal, IF all cats that do not meet that goal are removed from the gene pool. This is why responsible breeders are so selective about the pairings, why they require money for offspring (the reasoning being that if you are willing to pay for an animal you might be willing to take care of it), required spay/neuter contracts, etc.

By letting the cats breed, by not at least fixing the males (even if they were anti-kitty-abortion), they are adding untold amounts of cats to a population already saturated.

You have homes "lined up" for your kittens' kittens? When will you breed the female? Hopefully not until she is a year old, and has shown herself to have a good personality and good health. By that time, if she is a sound cat, will those homes still be available? You say you intend to fix the male in "a few months". He could father hundreds of kittens if he gets away from you as early as four months. If he is weaned, then he can be neutered NOW.

Please, people, think before you act.

For the record, I did not abort snailkittens' kittens, which makes me something of a hypocrite. However, neither she, nor her kittens, will ever have kittens, and the boys will likely stay with me.
>> Caliche
>>140306
lol, big post...not quite sure where to begin.

>It's irresponsible because there are already cats that need homes.
Don't take us to be shallow, but most of the owners picked these cats because of their ancestry. I really wouldn't have been interested in getting another cat [especially one from a shelter, but that's not what this is about].

>You have...will those homes still be available?
Knowing the people who have asked for such a cat, yes. However, if for some reason the homes are not available I have no problem keeping them for myself [I really love cats].

Also, I do agree with you about having them spayed. My cat's kittens will not be leaving my care until they have been snipped. [Though largely because I live in the city and I

>If he is weaned, then he can be neutered NOW.
Hmm, I was always taught not to do it so soon, but then again I have never owned a male cat. I'll look into that when I take them to get checked out in a couple weeks.

>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ

Despite you not intending to be shallow, that is rather.. I don't know the right word for it. It seems extremely stupid and a sign of why I haet california: Rich folks getting a cat because it has a bobcat for a great grandparent while hundreds of healthy cats sit in cages. I'm assuming they are rich, what with the company they keep. You say you wouldn't have been interested in getting another cat.. and yet you got TWO more, and are willing to keep the kittens they might produce.

I'm glad that you are being responsible and getting the kittens fixed, and are willing to keep them if they cannot go to the planned homes. Many people refuse to get their cats fixed until they are six months old or go into heat for the first time.. it's unhealthy. Intact females that are allowed to go through estrus are more likely to get a host of diseases, especially cancer. Males will spray long before they are six months old, will fight and can father kittens earlier than that. It's a good idea to fix all pets once they are approaching sexual maturity; Fix them before they begin ovulation or just after their testicles descend.

Again, thank you for a rational discussion, even if I was a bit rude at times. This is something that I become very impassioned about. Rest well.

Remembered I had to wash my work uniform, so I'm up for another half hour.

>>140350
Well yes, I couldn't see myself picking another cat, but I have wanted one of these since I first heard of them. It's because of that that these kittens are very special to me. I probably couldn't love or care about another cat as much as I do these two kittens. Plus I've seen these kittens many times over the past few weeks, I've grown to be very attached to them and I don't think another cat would do.

I can't say for sure how many of these other owners are rich though I can say that the owners are not the people to give up their friends when they became wealthy. They still have the same friends they had in highschool [though they have gotten new ones from when they are hunting]. I can say for certain that I am NOT rich.

I wont try to vouch for everybody who has taken one of these kittens, I'm sure a few of them wont treat the kitten as well as I do and wont appreciate it as well as it should be, but Vince is a good judge of character and I'm sure that most of the owners think of their new cats in the same way I do.

Sucessfully hybridizing meaning that the offspring of the lynx species and cat could not produce viable offspring, if mated with another cat/lynx cross? This may be the case, but it doesn't predict what might happen if a lynx/cat cross mated with a normal domestic cat...
