My dad is gonna be pissed /an/, so I need your help. I am currently in possession of 4 3 1/2 month old lab puppies and their mom. I baby sit them during the day at which time I'm usually told to just keep them out side when the weather is good.

Needless to say our back yard is the perfect picture of disaster. chewed up plants (including a $300 tree..) holes in the middle of the yard. Toy stuffing everywhere. And their newest target is the pads we put into their new dog igloo thing. They've gone through two in the past two days. (mind you they're just fine with the pad in the first one they have. Never even been chewed on.)

So my question /an/ is: How the hell do I stop them!?

aren't you babysitting them while they're outside? take some fucking initiative and play with the damn puppies

buy them some chewable toys and doggy bones. obviously they're teething

Kill the vicious fuckers.

I do but I can't play with them fucking 24/7

and they have plenty chew toys and dog bones, which do get chewed on, but so does everything else.

provide pics of puppies pls.

in cases where puppies chew on things theres really nothing you can do but 1) distract them (playng with them) or 2) puppy-proof the area they're in and give them object that distract them

in other words, don't let them be around things you don't want destroyed. that's just something you do when you have puppies. it's dangerous to them and annoying to you when they chew on shit. and no, they wont be able to tell "i shouldn't chew on THIS. i should chew on THIS instead." they're puppies, remember? just dont put them in a position where they can chew on the wrong thing

If I do they're gonna be crappy cell phone pics. I don't have access to my dad's log in, where all the pictures are.

Alright so puppy proof the back yard. Thanks for the advice. But how do I stop them from killing the mats? I mean its for their little bed so I really don't think its something We can get rid of. (Or something my step mom would be willing to get rid of)

as for the mats... save them for when it's bed time? it may be a pain at first... but you could just put the mats in at night or when the puppies are tired (if they have a fairly regular time when they go to sleep...)

over time you may be able to leave the mats out, and the puppies may lose interest

Actually they sleep in kennels inside at night, and for some reason the pads in those don't die either. But I can try putting them in every once in awhile, when they look like their getting tired, then taking it out again when they wake up.. Thanks again /an/. I'll bring the suggestions up to my dad when he gets home.

and also a crappy puppy pic brought to you from my cell phone. This guy is Kodiak.

What kind of mats are they? are they "puppy pads", the things that they are supposed to pee on? Those are terrible, absolutely terrible. If you're talking about "dog bed" type cushions.. maybe get some cheapo pillow cases and cover them. The puppies can chew on the pillow case, and you can just wash it or toss it when it gets gross.

Puppies should NEVER be outside unsupervised. Hell, I wouldn't leave a 6 month old dog outside alone for more than a few minutes, even if your yard is secure. Why? Theft and hawks. If it will fit in a hawks talons and squirms, it will try and eat it. If it MIGHT fit in its talons, it will try. People steal adorable puppies, and a friendly mom might not be much of a deterrent. (Caveat to this is a locked kennel or dog run. If you had one of those, you could leave them out.)

As another anon said, just don't let them be around anything they cannot chew on. Give them a fuckton of things that are delicious to chew on. At that age, they should be sleeping most of the time anyway.

no no no not those pee mats. its just a foam filled mat the shape of the igloo. and the pillow case thing might work too.

And I'm not worried about hawks, I haven't seen one in the 5 years we've lived at this house. and the lightest puppy was 35 lbs the last time we weighed them and that was a week ago. So I really not concerned about that.

About theft, not to worried about that either. Mom barks and growls at anything that she doesn't know that comes near them. (hackles go up and everything.) And we also have a good relationship with most of the people on our street, So If I don't notice someone in our back yard (which is very unlikely) they'll notice someone coming out of it.

and also puppy #3 Trinity.

Thanks bitter. Actually we got lucky with their dad. (puppies were an accident) Dad turned out to be a show quality stud, with good results for his eyes and hips tests.

Puppy #4 Sherman.

Some good exercise should help drain some of their excess puppy energy. Just a short walk or something like that.
