Hey /an/

What's your opinion on lovebirds? I want to get a pair because I've heard they're sweet and affectionate, but what are your experiences with them?

One of my biggest questions is are they mean/nippy little fuckers or outgoing? Also, never owned a bird, so what should I look out for. Thanks!

never owned them myself but my aunt and uncle owned a mated pair. seemed really sweet to me.

i have one and he is the GREATEST bird i have ever lived w/! if you have a lot of time to spend w/ them i suggest getting one becouse it will bond w/ you and love you and treat you like they treat there "mates". if you dont have more then a few hours each day to bond, get a pair, i have no experience w/ a pair but they are really adorable to see snuggling!

me again! i read more of your post lol

just like any bird they take a little while to bond w/ you and trust you. and again like ALLL birds they are territorial in there cage. it took Seamus almost a year to fully trust/bond w/ my family, but honestly the time spent bonding was SO well worth it! his wings are not clipped and he has free roam of the house when we are home (although he much rather be on our shoulder!) he sleeps in my mothers hand (she is who he is most closely bonded w/) he loves his head being scratched and he is just all around happy! as gross as it sounds he sometimes regurgitates for my mother becouse he loves her so much! he has a small attitude (but what bird dosnt) and it is part of his charm! i highly recommend a love bird! ive had nothing but good luck w/ my little friend!

i have one, he's 9 years old (fyi they can get up to 15-20). i specifically only got him and not a pair because i knew he would be more likely to bond with me that way. i chose him out of all his cagemates because he was the most friendly and outgoing - he went right up to me and climbed up my arm the first day i saw the brood.

they are pretty easy pets, not very messy, not smelly at all, easy to feed, etc. but they can be annoying as all fuck, screaming loudly when they just fuckin feel like it for no reason. not nearly as bad as conures, lordy no, still...don't expect to live in a dorm or apartment with one unless you want everyone around you to be annoyed. also, they can be extremely affectionate to the person(s) they bond to (mine loves to be petted) and, at least my bird, be aggressive toward strangers.

please do tons of research before you get one. a single bird will need a lot of attention, especially when it's young. they need a pretty big cage because they're VERY active, which can be hard to find since the bars have to be close together.

anyway, if you have any specific questions just ask :o)

I used to have a pair of lovebirds, they were really sweet but I had to give them to a friend who they also liked a lot because my cats would try their damnedest to eat them =(

Yeah, I shouldn't have gotten lovebirds when I also had cats, but at least I was a kid and dumb and they ended up in a nice home.

where I live, ther are laws about how you can keep birds, so if it's the same where you live you should read up on them. also, get a pair, especially if you know you'll be gone alot during the day. as for the biting, it depends on how the bird is as a person.
