Hi /an/,

I recently bought some new cat food bowls. They are painted ceramic, and I bought them at PetsMart. When I got home, I noticed they were made in China. Now, I was wondering if they might be painted with lead paint. Is this a reasonable concern or am I just being paranoid?

TL;DR Are my cat bowls safe?

Pic is similar to the bowls I bought.

yes it does

it so fucking does

If you dumbasses are still supporting China, after decades of human rights abuse, decades of providing lesser-quality and even more dangerous products to our family and pets...

jesus fuck you deserve to be poisoned

Politics aside I myself really am just that paranoid. If I were you I'd shell out the extra just to be sure. It could mean avoiding a $500+ kidney-related thing later on. You literally just never know unless you do exhaustive research on the company that manufactures it and what people have to review about them.

No negative reviews on the PetSmart website.

Trusting the CHINESE to play it safe is something only a moron would do.

Look up pet food bowl recalls, and check brand names. I guess you could melt some wax and line the insides, but really, I'd have just got stainless steel to begin with.

My cat drinks out of disposable styrofoam bowls, glass bowls, and puddles in the yard. No need to waste money on cute shit when we can just give her food and water out of stuff we're not gonna use.

I work at a PetSmart. I have bought several dishes for my cats over the years. There has never, to my knowledge, been a pet dish recall. There -have- been (rare) instances of a cat being allergic to everything but glass, but odds are your cat will not have this problem.

Two minutes on Google has pulled up an article (with no references nor credits beyond a reference to another website where it was found) stating that lead, chromium, and other harmful substances were found on child-toy-like dog and cat toys sold at a WalMart and a dollar-store, unnamed. As noted, no credits were given, no way to contact the original author, and if you're really that worried about it, just give your cat his water in a tupperware, or a shallow soup bowl.

You are being paranoid. Also, 99% of EVERYTHING comes out of China these days. Enjoy worrying about the possibility of lead in your own plates and bowls.

Good night.
