Hey /an/,
this is my cat, Emperor Mao.
He has a few problems:
An abundance of fleas that even flea shampoo and collar can't cure, scratching at the side of his litter tray rather than digging the sand and he likes to sit under my lamp and try to stare at the bulb.
Also he climbs into the bathroom sink and sits under the dripping tap.
Halp.

here he is playing in the plastic.
So, anyone have any flea cures or reasons for his strange behavior?

If flea shampoo and collar doesn't work take him to the Vet fast.

>Also he climbs into the bathroom sink and sits under the dripping tap
CUTE!!! love when they do that

Thanks.
Do you know why he would stare at light bulbs or why he cant seem to figure the kitty litter out?
iv shown him what to do, but he just doesn't seem to get it.

Sounds like somebody needs a cat fountain.

staring at lightbulbs? like when they are on? that is beyond weird. cant imagine it being pleasant.

as for the litter, my cats never figuered it out. wasnt much of a problem thou

Even if you kill the fleas on him, they're probably still all around your house on every kind of fabric. You can use salt(normal table salt) to kill them by spreading it on the furniture and other stuff(like carpet) or you can use a commercial spray. I'd take him to the vet, though.

I've never understood why you'd really need some kind of anti-flea shampoo. I mean, if you just soak the bugger in plain old water for a minute or two it'd just drown.

Flea collars are a bad thing, every vet I've talked to considers it outdated and potentially extremely harmful to the cat. Get yourself some Bayer Advantage or the like instead.

As for scratching at the side of the litter tray instead of the sand, my cat still does that and she's nearing 5 years old. She also occasionally still tries to cover up her food bowl... which is on linoleum flooring.

As for the lamp? No idea. But cats sitting in sinks is hardly a new phenomenon.

I used Sevin dust to get rid of the fleas in my house. Sprinkle it all over the carpet and upholstery, then wait a couple of days before vacuuming it up.
Also get some real flea medication from your vet instead of using those nasty flea collars.

Don't bother with flea collars or shit from the supermarket, get something like Frontline, and use it every month for at least 6 months. You may need household spray as well to clear some of the eggs.

I don't know if this can be used on cats, but I give my bichon a flea medicine called Comfortis. It's new--and the only treatment that actually works for her.

Seconding Frontline.

Just don't put sevin dust on a cat, it's very very bad for them. Use Frontline AFTER you take him to the vet.

Maybe his eyesight isn't too good?

And, whatever you do, don't buy a cheapass substitute for Frontline (like zodiak or some other walmart shit).
It's stinks really bad and has been known to make cats mortally sick.

My cat scratches at the side of the little pan too, I've never considered it much of a problem. I always thought she did it to clean the leftover litter from her paws.

For fleas, there is a pill you can give to the cat that turns the cat's blood poisonous to the fleas. Take to the vet and ask what it is, I forget its name. Also use frontline afterwards to kill off any stragglers.

Scratching the side of litter tray - he finds the litter tray dirty. Completely clean out all the sand and wash the litter tray.

I don't know why he tries to stare at the bulb. Maybe he finds it fascinating. Even if you ask the vet, vet'll probably say "lol i dunno".

Some cats like drinking from drippy water. It's normal, it's cute, if it bothers you, get your cat one of them pet water fountain thinghies and he'll sit in front of that instead.

Oh yeah I forgot, the scratching the side thing could also be because there is not enough litter in the tray.

If you want a cheap effective means of helping the cat keep flea free, and your home... use garlic poweder. It is a natural flea deturant. Also if you can make your cat eat some fresh garlic (Do NOT use garlic pills under any circumstance) it helps detur fleas from landing on the kitty.

As for the litter box, that's normal. Each cat is different in the wya they use it. iu have one that has to spread all the litter from all arround the edges into the middle before she'll go, and another that pops and just leaves it... The first one always comes and bury's the other's poop.

As for the lightbulb, you cat could just be stupid. :P Or more then likely it's A KITTEN. And kittens are dumb. that's why nature made them durable.
>> light bulb Peter
Our cat does the SAME thing, and it's starting to worry me. She obsessively pokes her head up into the lampshade and stares right at the lightbulb, two inches in front of her eyes. We're trying to break her of it because this CAN'T begood for her, but why is she doing it to start with????

Does she have a visions problem? How can you tell? If she doesn't have one yet, surely she will if we can't break her of this.
