This was my old cat, Poodie. A possum tore out her eye, but she lived to be 23 years old.

Anyone else ever have any pets with disabilities?

This was my cat, Kropek.

He had a paralised left palm, probably from infection he had when he lost his claw. He was already like that when I took him.

More pix here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/dalej/tags/kropek/

I put him to sleep yesterday when his kidneys finnaly gave up.
He was the best cat I ever had or knew, and I had/knew quite a lot.
I miss him a lot.

I'll come BAAAW with you guys. This is Eeto, he's gone too.

He was the most mentally fucked up cat I've ever known - he was extremely unpredictable. He would launch himself onto my shoulder over and over until I carried him around with me (he was very heavy), demand hugs, and always found a way to slither his fat ass under the smallest of spaces so he could slap at me as I walked by. He had OCD to the extreme, if he decided something was his, it was his for however long he decided he liked it. Also, twitchy like a crack fiend. But not in the skittish kind of cat way - he was extremely lovable, just a little weird.

This is my cat Boozer; He's gone as well

I got him when I was 2. He was born with runny eyes and the medicine was too expensive apparently, so he was boxed up and abandoned in the park across from my town house. A man was mowing in the park and he could hear Boozer meowing over the motor. He opened the box and Boozer ran off. An older stray male named Dum-Dum took him in along with my other cat Bitsy. It was really weird for an old male to take in 2 baby males, but Dum-Dum took in tons of stray kittens and led them to my mom to be fed. When we moved when I was three, we brought along Boozer, Bitsy, and Dum-Dum because no one else would have taken care of them and they had become used to us and being indoors; they even came house broken. Boozer lived to be 15 despite the problems with his runny eyes, and various other scars and problems that come with being an outdoor cat that would chase snakes down storm drains. Nicest cat I have ever known.

I have a partially blind cat.
he has to look at something at a very strange angle, so he hast to tilt his head when he's looking at you or anything.
very talkative too. when he sits at my lap, he will start meowing non-stop, until he falls asleep or I ignore him too long.
and he tries to maintain eye contact when he speaks, with that weird angle of his of course.

Hey OP, do you know what breed Poodie is? I have a cat (small, scrawny, extravagantly long hair, black/white, timid but unbelievably sweet) who looks a lot like her, I love her to death, I've never met a cat with her characteristics before, but occasionally in photos I'll see another animal with whatever genes she has that looks exactly like her. And when I ask all I ever get is 'lol i dunno domestic longhair?'. Do you have any idea?

My cat has three legs. She's called tripod and is 12 years old.

Was found dumped in a bush in next doors front garden only a few weeks old. Some asshole failed at killing her with a spade and instead ruined her leg.

The lady next door thought it was ours and told us, we took in our house and as I held her she started purring.

Vet bill for the amputation reached around £700.

Three legs hasn't really bothered her though. She climbs trees, runs around, tries to scratch her left ear and can't so her stump twitches like crazy till someone scratches the spot for her.

She's such a baby cat, can pick her up and hold anyway you want and she just purrs and purrs.

Pic is Tripod.

The cats protection league stepped in after we informed the vet we couldn't afford the bill and we didn't even own the cat and paid half the bill.

20 year old kitty. He's deaf (for the past couple of years) arthritis, kidney problems, other age related stuff...

Still going like the energizer bunny, but I suppose he could die any day now. :(

guess it's a common thing amongst albino types.

This is daddy cat, hes mostly blind in both his eyes, we think he can only see light and dark. He finds his way mostly by bumping into things. He is still alive and a pimp lol he gave us in total 15 kittens which we gave away to people. He was an outside cat but we keep him inside most of the time because he cant fight as well as he used to be able to.

I have a cat who can't walk, he was born disabled, and he has to be taken care of much like a kitten otherwise he wouldn't be able to survive. Everytime he tries to walk, he simply flops everywhere and hurts himself.

He's a scrawny little flame-point, very pretty.

Oh sweet, been looking for an excuse to post this picture.

This is WeeWee, she's about seven. Her whole litter was born with leg defects, but all but hers were cured from a month or so in a splint.

Her front legs never developed enough bones, so they're short and stubby. The first vet we went to when she was a kitten told us to put her down. Thankfully we got a second opinion, and she's been living a happy life. She hops around like a bunny and sits on her hind legs more often.

Actually, she's snoring on the couch behind me right now.

White animals with blue eyes or one blue eye tend to be deaf (not including Siamese cats, of course) due to the recessive genes involved with both the white coat and the blue eyes. It's just an unfortunate genetic linkage.

This is Yuki, he's completely deaf. My Mom found him on the side of the road when he was a kitten (he's about a year old or a bit less), jumping around. He lives in his own world, where no one yells or reprimands him for his wrongdoing. He's kinda wild, but he's wicked smart, and he has really sharp eyes.

Will post pics of my Dog...

This is Pequeña or Pepi (Spanish for Little), she was born at my house when I was 9, she's about 12-years-old. She's always been the healthiest of Dogs, but she was recently diagnosed with an enlarged heart and has to take medications daily. The pressure on her chest causes her to choke if she gets too excited, which she does... about almost everything.

These pics were sent to me by my Sis, as I haven't seen my pets since December. We have another cat, called Nemo, but he's a pretty healthy chap. He's suuuuuper fat, is that a disability? :D

My sister had a cat that was brain damaged at birth and was very wobbly and would fall over a lot, but other than that he was a happy healthy cat, He died last year at about 15.

This is Binky; Binky was born w/ lack of oxygen to the brain [or so we think] he was mildly retarded; he tended to do do stupid things and when you swatted him, he purred =/. He was one of four out of a litter. He had kidney failure and odd enough he was only born with one kidney. He died at the age of 7.
>> LaBambaMan
I had two cats a long while back who were, quite obviously if you looked at them, experimented on. One died of cancer that ate away his lungs at the age of 9 months, the other died several years later in his sleep. He was blind, his motablisim had stopped, and he was starting to lose function in his legs. Now we have three other cats here and one has an enlarged heart, doesn't stop him from running all through the house..but neither does his old age. One is just all scabby from fleas and picking fights with the other two, and the youngest is just a dumb-ass.

my parents took in a stray after his tail was ripped off somehow. he's got shitty balance, but he somehow became much stouter and larger (though he appeared fully grown and didn't grow for the first six months they owned him). he now rumbles around like a little furry black tank. sometimes he does things for no reason, like run into solid objects as though they weren't there.

my lab/newfie has a very slow heartbeat. she's extremely calm, rarely barks, and spends most of her time resting. she'll play with anyone or anything, but only gets excited when i'm around. she's also immensely fierce when she thinks i'm threatened.

My cat was also deaf.

We just called her 'Kitty'. I couldn't name her, because she obviously had more dignity in her than I did.

We took her in when she was already old, even vets couldn't guess her age except being over 10. She lived four years with us, constantly struggling with various forms of cancer.

Best cat I've known. She was happy only on my knees or beside me in bed. She also liked to lick my hand for 15 minutes straight. NEVAR FORGET!

Had a cat named Döönisu, lived to be about 18. Got bit by a black widow when I was a kid and as a result had to have his front left leg amuptated. And then one of his back legs was... I dunno, I called it a "picasso leg" because it was so horrificly deformed. Like, one of his toes was where his knee should have been. He convulsed one morning, slipped into a coma and died.. 2005, I believe.

The one in this pic is Duusi (grey cat, not the black), whose only disability is her tail. idk what happened to it lol, we found her lying in the middle of a tennis court when she was like 2 weeks old. You can't really tell in the pic, but her tail is half the size of a normal tail and is crooked, bending towards the right.

I have a blind German Shepperd.

Dinny. She's 7 years old, and blind since she was born. Haven't seen her in 4 months, but my parents tell me she's fine. No pics right now. She lives with her 11 years old mother, Sunny.
Dinny finds her way through the house by memorizing the layout, by bumping into things or by following Sunny.

I have a rat that has three legs and less than half a tail. Her name is Stumpy. When she and her littermates were born their mama chewed on them, so none of them had a full tail. The pet store I used to work for couldn't give them enough care, so I took them home and hand-fed them, until we figured out Mama was just stressed by so many of them (there were 12) and wouldn't chew on them if we split them into two groups of six.

Stumpy and her sister, Blondie, and Mama stayed with us and live happily with my neutered male Leo. Stumpy runs on a wheel and climbs the bars of her cage like a pro. The only time her disability becomes obvious is when she's walking on a flat surface...she sort of "bumps" along.

Had a cat named Flash a long time ago, it came home one day mangled, looked like a car had hit it. We got him patched up but he lost the use of an eye.

One day we came home and there was this crushed cat in our drive way, big tire track through it. The cat was identical to mine but to my surprise when I got to the front door there was flash still going.

Had him for a few more years then one day he just never returned. He was a great cat, sadly I haven't had one since.

My cat likes to fight, right now we just got her back from the vet, nasty infected bite on her back leg.

I try to keep her in the house at night but sometimes she just wont have anypart of it.
