I have an african grey who is the devil. I birdsat someones macaw for little over 2 years untill he wanted it back. :(

The macaw was badass, which made me purchase an african grey which I read was much smarter but she turned out being a fucking bitch and now I am stuck with a bird who will probably end up living longer than me.

Used to have budgies. Then moved out of my parents' house, and the budgies stayed there. Made a promise to my parents that as soon as my living arrangements stabilized, I'd take the birds with me. Looking forward to it, really -- they're cute, clever little buggers who're both absolutely smitten with me whenever I'm visiting the parental units' house.

I DID have two budgies, George and Loki. George was a pig and tossed his seed everywhere, and was constantly squawking. Finally the bastard escaped from his cage and made it outside.

Loki is a bit frigid, but we're guessing he never had much handling from humans. After George escape poor Loki went emo for a few days, but now he's always singing and happy.

i thought i wanted a goffins cockatoo cuz of the ones at work, but after reading sites on them, ive decided birds just arnt pets..

oh and i have two budgies.. they suck too

Yeah, birds aren't bred to be pets like dogs and cats would be. They don't solicit human attention like pet mammals would. Can't expect them to be all hugs and kisses if you don't get to know them, you know?

Definitely not for everyone. Most people will be happier with a dog or a cat or something that doesn't have a beak.

Also, the OP's picture gave me diabetes.

I have a budgie.

She's pretty bitchy, but tends to be affectionate every now and then.

Someone dumped their Cockatiel on me after its mate died and it became antisocial. I couldn't even get a bird rescue facility to take it and its douche attitude off my hands.

I've never met a bird I liked. They're too prone to mood swings, for me. Even the "friendly" ones bite. Birds shouldn't be kept as pets unless the owner is pirate.

Also. Whenever they bite you, they always run off, mouth agape and eyes wide, like it was YOU who wronged THEM. It's true. Fuck birds. gb2tree.

I had an awesome peach face. It was a very loud bird! but so beautiful!

I also have a peachfaced lovebird. It's shit crazy ever since its sibling died of an infected leg wound... It has no neck feathers and it's always chattering crazy shit all the time. Oh, and because of mishandling of the previous owners, the stupid lovebird and its old sibling would NEVER perch on your hands or ANYTHING... The closest they get would be the shoulder and then SKREEEEEEEEET!! huge sonic peep in your fucking ear drums.

God DAMN I wish this bird would die already...

sage for birds topic

After 5 long-ass years I have finally got my parakeet to perch on my finger.

Parakeets are the shit, but you have to realize that unlike other pets such as dogs, they are scared as fuck of everything. They don't bite because they're being a bitch, but because it's what they do when they're scared.

In 1 month I can develop a mutually fulfilling relationship with a dog or cat built on trust and companionship.

Birds are good for looking at / listening to / building your patience for god knows what. Also, a caged bird is just sad imo.

I really don't see the appeal and I've spent a bunch of time with parrots and parakeets and sparrows etc.

1 Blockatiel, 1 Senegal, 2 Budgies, and previously 6 Zebra Finches (they were released). They all live @ my parent's house since my apartment doesn't allow pets. My sister acquired the budgies after one flew into her trombone (from who knows where) during marching band practice, the other was to keep the first company. all the bags on my blockatiel's cage are there because he likes to sit in them and sing. dunno why.

a Blockatiel in flight is a thing of beauty.
