Hey /an/

My cat, which I've had for 15 years, is about to die. She has cancer, has stopped eating, and I'm going to be taking her to an emergency vet to be euthanized. I know this is not the place to look for sympathy, but to distract myself from the thought of losing my pet, I thought I'd post a pic or 2 here. She has a little over 2 hours left to live.

Pic related, her in better health.

I'm really sorry, I know exactly how it feels. Give her a hug for me and for the rest of the cat-loving anon's and lavish her with love in the time she has left - rather than hanging out here.

You're arranging a proper burial (cremation?) for her, right? Pro tip (have buried seven budgies in my time): the ceremony isn't actually for the deceased pet.

Sorry to hear about your cat.

Cheer the fuck up, no one will ever hurt her again, she'll be safe forever. She won't hurt or go hungry or be cold.

Try and put on a happy face, because if you're upset and crying in her last hours, she's going to think you're punishing her for something.

OP:

I don't know what kind of burial or cremation I'm gonna do with her. I'd give her some loving, but I think she wants to be alone right now, probably due to her not feeling good. I've known this was coming for a few weeks, but I didn't expect it to happen so suddenly.

You should buy a new cat now so there won't be any down time.
You could also save a lot of time by just throwing the body into a field somewhere. The foxes will appreciate it.

What>>181788said.

Once it's over, feel free to bawwww your eyes out. It'll pass, then you'll move on. You can think of the euthanizing as something that you, as a pet owner, have a duty to do for her.

If she has stopped eating then she's already kind of trying to off herself, right? So no guilt there either. It's just what happens, what must happen unless your pet lives longer than you do.

I'm sorry for your loss.
She is however a real cutie, you were lucky to have her.

Well, if she absolutely must be left alone and you're going to stay here then we demand as many pics of her as you own.

Think of it as internet immortality.

Awww, feel better OP. I've had to put a few cats to sleep, and it's always very saddening. She looks like a sweet kitty.

OP here - she's gone. She went pretty quietly, and we were even able to get a short purr out of her before the end. She was pretty jaundiced, as her liver was basically shut down due to the cancer.

I suppose that because I'd known it was coming for a few weeks now, that I was able to prepare a bit. The last week and more had been one big goodbye, basically, and due to how much she was suffering, I didn't want to drag it out. I had the support of some family too, so that helped.

i'm so sorry OP. I had a cat at 16 put down from cancer. she was bleeding anally and we couldn't control it she was in so much pain, she clung to my mother when the vet tried to lift her up to inject her. it's so terrible and I give you my deepest sympathies. I hope she had a wonderful 15 years with you <3

dont you just hate seeing the pain in your animals' eyes? it kills me.

When you really think about it, what better life could she have had? She probably never truly was in need of anything in her life. She went out peacefully, a privilege not even all humans get to enjoy.

OP is the funniest damn thing I've read in a long time.

We had to do that for my cat a few years ago that we'd had for 13 years (he was two years old when we got him). It hurt a lot, but it was better than watching him starve to death. It was the only time I ever cried over a death. It hurt for weeks and I still miss him. :(

and i doubt words of sympathy can help ease the pain but sometimes it helps to know that people care
