Free-roaming bunnies Anonymous
I hate seeing my two rabbits just stuck in their cages. Of course I let them out once a day so that they can roam around the garden for a while, but they just seem miserable back in their cages, as opposed to when they'll just lie around on the ground all relaxed and calm.

I'm thinking of setting aside a part of the garden exclusively for the rabbits, so that they aren't stuck in the cage anymore and can roam around, while still safe from cats. But I don't even know where to start, so any suggestions or preparations on what I should do with the area? Will it overall be better for them to be in this enclosed area instead of a cage?

You need to figure out a way to keep them from digging under the fence and getting out.

Depends on how your garden is laid out. We let our rabbit outside for most of the day (usually let her out around 8-9 AMish, bring her back in around 5-5:30 PM) and we've put up chicken wire near the places where she can usually escape. ASide from that, the entire backyard pretty much belongs to her, but that's because ours is relatively small.

If your garden is smallish, then all I'd worry about is blocking off gates and such so your rabbits can't dig out. If you have a huge garden, then I'd suggest blocking off an area with some open grass and some foliage for them to run around in and to hide in. Flowers are good too. I know my rabbit love munching on flowers.

If you're paranoid about cats, you could always build a hutch outside for them to run into. The entrance could be too small for the cat and large enough for them to crawl into. I don't have a cat problem, so I don't really worry about that much...

ANyway, good luck with your rabbits!

You'd need to rabbit proof the garden. You need a fence that reaches four feet above and one foot below ground.

A motivated rabbit will jump over a three-foot fence. Given time, they'll dig under most obstacles.

Put the cats in a stew, that'll teach them.

I've seen These but HUGE ones, build one =)
You put the "fence-stuff" on the floor to, so they cant dig, and make it mobile so you can move'm around, otherwise the grass will turn to mud =/
