I found a snake in my garden earlier today, (this is not a picture of him, but he looks almost the same and is the same size) and I really want to keep him.

I know that this is probably a really bad idea, but I've always wanted a snake and I'm not really in the right financial situation to buy one.

I know some about snake care, but mostly about more pettish kind of snakes.

I have him in a tank with a warming blanket under it that I turn on and off periodically.

Any tips that you guys could provide?

Agreed. Reptiles need lighting, even ones from your back yard. Putting them next to the window doesn't cut it. That shit is expensive.

Well, it's too late to let him go now.

Is what I'm doing enough to keep it alive through the night?

>Well, it's too late to let him go now.

1. Acquire tank in which snake is currently existing.
2. Pick it up
3. Carry it to your garden where you found it
4. Open lid of tank.

Unless by "too late" you mean your garden was suddenly enveloped by some freak temporal vortex and now no longer exists...

if you dont have the financial stability to keep him then dont keep him. reptiles need a roomy tank, basking light (that has UV), a shallow water dish, food (insect to mice).

I mean 'too late' as in it's nighttime. That's why I said 'through the night'.

Sorry for under complicating things.

Dumbasses here apparently don't know that snakes don't need fucking UV light when they're fed whole prey.

Nor do they necessarily need roomy enclosures.

What the OP has is probably a garter snake. Let it go because those aren't the easiest to keep healthy. Get a faggot cornsnake first, learn it, and then go find yourself a snake in the wild again if you want to.

Will do!

There a particular reason you can't let it go at night? I'm thinking the snake will be fine if you let it go.

But I won't be.
I know it's a faggy reason, but I'm afraid of the dark.

Oh God no.
I would have to kill myself if I ever went there.
