Doberman's don't have long ears, dipshit. They have short drop ears, and they are no more a burden then any other of their other appendages.

I have to agree. It's true that the whole process looks rather uncomfortable, but I have yet to see a dog who seemed to be annoyed or in pain because of it.

Even if the dogs DIDN"T feel it, what's important is the ethics behind it..

cutting pieces off an animal for asthetics is disgusting. its not for the animal's benefit, its so the owner has something they prefer to look at. the animal doesn't have a choice in this matter - they're forced to endure butchery.. just 'cause some asshole thinks it looks more fierce.
>> Anonymous
I have a schnauzer with uncropped ears, but an uncropped tail. Am I a bad person?

tbh, I was never given a choice in the matter, the breeder had already had the tail cropped.
>> Anonymous
A lot of the dogs DO need the tail done. I didn't get the ears or tail done on my dobie and he smacked his tail onto things so hard that he was bleeding all the time.
>> Anonymous
>>178014

i've heard that done for rotties, too. that's different than asthetics though, isn't it.

Doesn't seem to be working if the ears aren't short yet. They bred lassies in a few generations too. Good try though kid.

>> Anonymous
>>178014

The only dogs who "need" their tails docked (which is what the procedure is called, not cropping) are dogs which are either used for hunting in undergrowth or herding in heavily fenced or woody areas. Even then, it is arguable, as very few undocked working dogs ever have any problems with tail injuries. A pet or other non-working dog never, ever NEEDS his tail docked. Why the fuck would he?>>178015

>>178015

No, retard. Why would a rottie NEED his tail docked? My two rotties would be lost without the constant entertainment that chasing their tails provides.

Please, DO NOT have surgical procedures performed on your animals without some semblence of fucking research being done beforehand. It's obvious that neither of you two morons have any fucking clue what you are talking about.

Dogs aren't meant to do guarding (only. They can do that and be house dogs at the same time, since dogs are so smart and all). Want something to protect your house? Buy a fucking alarm system.

It's easy to argue that ear cropping is for aethetics only. However tail docking is different. It's done to prevent the animals from smashing up their tails, particularly while working/herding/hunting etc.

http://www.cdb.org/what_is.htm

This site has videos of pups being docked. They are newborns and the pain they experience is momentary. Compare that to an older animal who breaks his tail on something.... fuckin' ouch.

Oh, come on. How many fucking dogs do you know that are actually used for hunting or herding in areas where their tail is likely to get injured? I've known, oh, three or so in my entire life, and guess what? They were all breeds not commonly docked (bluetick and redbone coonhounds, owned by seriously fucking redneck relatives). Injuries to the tail? Oh, bitch please. I worked in a veterinary clinic for four fucking years, and I saw a grand total of ONE dog with an injured tail... ran over by the owner's car while he was sitting in the driveway. But I saw probably thirty dogs with eye, nose, or ears injuries, and almost four times that many leg injuries. Should we cut off their legs, too, asshole?

Who cares? It's at best a fucking FETUS, and no one in their right, logical mind should give a shit about a goddamn fetus.
>> Anonymous
That may be what they "say" dock tails is for, however, it is a purely aesthetic choice as well. Tails are a balance organ. Also, saying they'll hurt it or that it'll get hurt on it's own is like saying you're going to smash your foot with a hammer when you're putting in a ceiling. Quit trying to justify your butchering of you companions.
>> Anonymous
>>179097

made of win. Also, made of truth, seriously, what a terrible argument in the case of getting docked tails. If I had a choice, I'd keep my Giant Schnauzer AND rotties tails UNdocked, but the breeder docks them only a couple days old, before I had any say (before I expressed interest in buying). I kept their ears normal, but damn. Cropped ears are fucking stupid, and they look mad gay.

>>179105

Thank god. Someone else who isn't a gullible faggot who believes any old bullshit that a breeder feeds him.

I am glad to say that in Australia it is now illegal to dock tails due to its unnecessary and painful nature.
>> Anonymous
>>179117

Germany also.
>> Anonymous
Hey did you guys know that it's common practice to dock the tails of newborn lambs? It's done to prevent a condition called fly strike. Are you going to make the British and Australian goverments ban that too?
>> Anonymous
>>179126
no, only companion animals can feel pain.
>> Anonymous
>>179126

docking tails to stop flystrike... which is horrible for the animals is not comparable to docking a dogs ears or tail to make it look like a retard.
>> Anonymous
lets take a different look at ear cropping, shall we?

I ask: why do they have to structure the ear into such an unnatural position? Ears on a dog are not suppose to be like ears on a rabbit or a horse. Sure, ears were cropped for farming and work reasons, but the ascetics of a tall pointy ear has been purely man-driven, not by need.

Tail docking, I've known more labs and goldens to have bloodied themselves to needing tail amputation than any other large working class breed. And yes I work in the veterinary field, as a tech, for the past 10 years. The majority of Rott/Pitt/Dob owners DON'T work their dogs to a point that I would say either would be a preventative measure. And if they do have them done up, more than likely they're dog fighters (at least that's what's prevalent in my area.)

OP: you started this tread in hopes of getting a few awws for a cute picture, but when you realize that 40% of cropped ears FAIL to stand fully erect, maybe that will give you mind to think twice about cosmetic surgeries for your own vanity.
>> Anonymous
>>179126

Lambs are notorious for suckling on anything and everything teet-like, so it is done also in prevention of cannibalism.
>> Anonymous
Tail docking was performed on "working dogs" so they would be exempt from taxes in the England. The practice eventually became part of the conformation of some breeds and has no basis in anything. Ear cropping is done for aesthetic reasons only, also most dog fighters don't crop the ears, because having an injured ear is better than a deaf dog. The ears (surprise!) are there to protect the eardrum.
