Hey /an/, I'm thinking of getting a dog. What breed produces the most intelligent dogs?

Definitely not a Corgi. I think the two most intelligent breed are Dobermans and Border Collies. My Weimaraner is pretty damn smart but I had a couple of Corgis who were about as bright as a not-so-bright rock.

Test tube.

I can't recall the name of the breed, but the little dogs they use in circuses are insanely smart.

Irish setters are incredibly intelligent.

Jack Russel Terriers are very smart, can unzip bags, open doors, etc.
>> ME
Yeah, Jack Russel Terriers are pretty stinking smart. And they'll let you dress them up in funny clothes... (remember Wishbone the dog on the kid's show? He acted out little dramatic scenes in history. Little freak.) Frasier's dog was a J.R. too.

See what I mean?

I owned a Jack Russel and I know a couple people that breeds them. Goddamned things are the most destructive, hyper, and vicious little sobs I've ever seen. We still have a hole in the wall where bridget decided we needed a doggy door.

I have to say the Border Collie or the Australian Shepherd are the smartest. I have a lab/Aussie cross and she learned all basic commands and was housebroken in the first week we owned her. Smart SOB too.

Well, when you think about it...a Border Collie DID save Timmie from the well...

Erm, maybe we are remembering different Timmys but.. Lassie was a male rough coated collie, not a border collie..

this is my J.r dog

No, we're thinking of the same Timmy, I'm just stupid like a rock. Thanks for the correction :o)

You know, the Lassie they used in film was actually a FEMALE collie. I thought that was pretty funny.

>>126965

Poodles? Yeah, they're very very smart.

my golden retriever is a damn genius. not to mention cute and loyal as hell.
not high maitenence, not all yappy like small dogs, and they live really long lives.

Wrong.

Lassie the character is supposed to be a female (hence the name: lass->Lassie). None of the collies playing lassie have been female, though. It's the world's most famous transgender film role!

Avoid Basset hounds like the plague if you want to have a dog that doesn't need a football helmet

Australian Shepherds are pretty smart. If you want a smaller dog, go for a Miniature Australian Shepherd! That's what I have. (Pic related.)

They're a lot smaller and just as beautiful, although mine is pretty stubborn and refusing to be entirely housebroken, but that's just lack of attention-span on my part, I think. It's so hard to watch him all the time.

According to many scientific studies, the most intelligent breed is the border collie. Presumably this is because, until recently, they were not an AKC registered breed and were actually bred for intelligence rather than appearance.

However, I sort of doubt the accuracy of some of these studies, since they all list the poodle as the second most intelligent breed... and every poodle I have known has been completely fucking retarded.

If it is intelligence you crave, get a cat. They are too smart to care for your trick training bullshit.

No, they're not. The link is right in this thread, you lazy fuck. Three smartest dogs:

1. Border collie
2. Poodle
3. German shepherd

Why has nobody suggested a mutt? They are incredibly intelligent because they aren't inbred retards.

Jack russel. They are so fucking clever bastards.
Big dog in a small body <3
