Wounded Lady Cardinal Found Voleta
So I go outside to get the mail, and one of my cats runs away from a bush all guilty like. I go over there and there is this female cardinal on her back all bloody. Being a girl, I scream and yell 'BAD CAT NO', and then dart inside with the bird to try and save it.

After drying her off and getting her warm, it doesnt appear to be that bad. Lots of lost feathers (most feathers from one wing are gone, as well as some from the tail), a few scratches, and one large puncture on her side. I rinsed out her big wound with some antiseptic wash (she was still in shock and was very still at the time) and then held a cotton ball on it till it stopped bleeding. It was around this time when she decided to quit playing dead and kill me. Srsly, snapping at me and thrashing. I had to wrap her up in a washcloth and hold her for awhile to calm her down enough to finish treating her.

Long story slightly shorter, she isn't using one leg, has a non-organ puncture wound on her side (right above the leg she's not using, maybe slashed a nerve?), and lots of missing feathers. She is moving around and trying to escape, so thats got to be a good sign, right?

Anything else I can do for her, /an/? I have her in the bathtub, cause there are no drafts and the cats cant get in there.

If she makes it longer than two days, what should I name her? Friskies or Iams?

Take her to a vet? I dunno, just a guess.

Of the birds I have found and tried to help, tried to rehabilitate the best possible. They die. Definitely call a professional!

in before 'whoops it died'

seriously, I've probably seen closed to twenty 'lol how do i fix da birdy 4chan?' threads, and they all end with 'the bird seemed to be doing better then it died :['

enjoy your dead bird
>> I sat on it and it died. :< Voleta
See how easy that was? Better to use a tripcode for topics like this.

I know its tempting to keep her, but you'd probably end up doing her more harm than good. The best that I could suggest is phone up any vetrinarian and ask them what the number to the local wildlife shelter is. If they don't have it then they should be able to direct you to someone that does.
