It's hard to make heads or tails of this picture, but it is actually grooming itself.. And it marks the last of the pictures I have.

One more thing, if you look in some of the pictures you can see that one of the spider's back legs is smaller than the others and appears misshapen. I wonder why this is? I have only ever owned one other spider before (in fact it is still with me here; my Rose hair, pictured).

I seriously doubt anyone will be able to provide a reliable gender I.D. using those photographs.

http://www.birdspiders.com/faq_sex.php Maybe this'll help. I found it while googling sex faqs. Not what I was looking for, but still good to know.

this is the best one of your pics to take a GUESS. though i won't because the area you need to see is out of focus..and the closer up the better.

wait for your spider to molt. i'll post a picture of a set up i used to use to sex the exuviums (shed skins) of spiders. basically, i just stood a flashlight on end, put some paper towel over the lens and stuck my magnifying lens over the top. placed the exuvium under the magnifying lens and would look through or take a photo through it. it's a lot easier to sex them (especially smaller ones) with the back-lighting.

the smaller leg is probably a regenerated leg. it could've lost it for whatever reason in the past.

that's a good read.

which would result in something like this.

My pinktoe had a leg that was slightly smaller, then one day it molted and all was well proportional.

The pedipalps on tarantulas don't work the same way as with other spiders? I dunno lol.
If they do, then it looks female to me.

they work the same..the problem is, this could be an immature male. up until the male spiders mature, they look the same as the females..excluding sexually dimorphic species.
