Mice as pets Anonymous
Do mice make good pets? I've googled it and found some decent sites but I'd like to know what /an/ thinks.

i hear they like teh cheese

They make decent pets -- they like to climb and are fun to watch. They're pretty short lived, though.

Hamsters are friendlier and less jittery. As are guinea pigs

Don't get a fucking mouse. Unless you want your house to be filled with fucking poop and get bitten all the time.

My advice, go get a real pet, a dog.

Or hermit crabs :D

You shouldn't let mice run around outside of their cage too much. They wont come back if they get away from you.

If you want a run-around pet, get a rabbit

Mice are greaaaaaaaat! Boys are stinkier than girls, by FAR, girls don't really have an odor if you keep their cage clean. So if odor is an issue, don't get boys.

A trio of girls is best, as they keep each other company and their antics are great to watch.

They're relatively cheap to house and feed and to purchase!

Buying a mouse from the petstore will almost guarantee you a mouse that is skittish off the bat. However, with treats and the like they will soon warm up to you.

They really are great!

I'd consider them "eh", not bad but not great either.

I had one growing up and it wasn't at all social with me and whenever I took it out it had more interest in sniffing around than me. They shit a ton too, little itty bitty shits but they add up- smelly piss too. Plus, if it gets out you'll never find the little fucker.. ever.

They are cute, but that's about all I give them. Cleaning the mouse cages (all female) was still unpleasant at the pet store, it was remarkably more pungent than any other small animal's. I do admit, I would be tempted to try taming one, but they seem too skittish to ever trust outside of the cage.

Rats are superior (and nothing like mice, outside of looks).

aww snake food

You are 1,000x better off with rats. They live longer, they're sweeter, more well-behaved, and while mice just tolerate you/play on you, rats will love you/play WITH you.

Go suck a cock, snakefag.

I've had mice and a rat, and I'd say, like a couple of other people in this thread, that the rat was way better. The mice are cute, but they just sort of run around. I felt like my rat actually enjoyed being around me, while the mice didn't really care either way.

I've had two rat males, and before them, three gerbils, which I think go into the same category with mice.
I'd go for rats, since they aren't as vulnerable, you don't need to watch for them all the time for things like falling and dying of it.

They're smart and can even do things like agility. You can go out with them and they won't go far from you. They will give you everything they have.

Mice, in contrary, don't care of humans, bite more often, run away if you put them on the yard and never come back (alive), are very weak and vulnerable, annoyingly fast and small, bite on things like cables, try their everything to get away from you.

Many people turn away from rats because "they have that tail EEK", but it's really just stupid, because rats make perfect pets.
(hint of the day: rat males are less aggressive towards other rats and their pee won't stink like female rats' pee does.)

Seems like the topic people prefer rats>mice.

I would go with rats too. I feed my snake a small / medium rat once every 3 weeks. But before that I play with them and they seem so damn friendly.

Mice are useless, stupid, disgusting animals. Only good for feeding to reptiles and shoving up a mousefag's ass.

like the fact it's a guinea pig

I'm quite fond of mine, but more people seem to prefer rats.
Be sure to acclimate them to you, if you get mice. Take a loose handful of millet or small birdseed and just leave your hand in the cage for half an hour or so a day. They'll get over their skittishness fast.
Soon they'll sit in your palm and munch away while you stroke their tails.

Quite the trolling, there.
