Good day /an/, ever since my two mastiffs passed away I have been thinking about getting a German Shepherd if not two. So is there any good reading material on the net or in a book store on training and taking care of them and other good reading information about GSDs? Help much appreciated.

Pretty sure that

doesn't have anything about training and physical habits. Just explains what the dog is.

Adorable puppy!! I've got a GSD, and she's the best dog i've ever had. Smarter than anything, and she's a great watchdog.

Seriously..Did you -not- even do a google search on GSD's?? Trust me, it will pull up lots of stuff. There's a good message board on GSD.com or something like that. (it's been awhile since i've been there)

I will tell you this: GSD puppies are the absolute cutest things you will lay your eyes on. EVER. They are really playful, and as they get older...DESTROY EVERYTHING. Thry have a very strong chewing instinct, and my puppy pulled up the rug, chewed on the walls and her fave toy was whatever sock she could get her teeth on. It drove us crazy for about 2 years, then suddenly...It was like she grew up! Since then, she really has become perfect. Nary an issue at all. She's having her 7th B-day this Oct, and she's just awesome.

Just like -any- dog, as puppies...They need work to be molded into a great adult. The actual puppy-stage can feel like a nightmare at times, tho!

I did try to google info on GSDs but it would constantly just give dog overviews and dog show pages and other not so useful sites. I will try looking for that forum though so thanks a bunch.

I have mastiffs :).
Sorry your passed on.
Going from mastiff to GSD is a far cry.
Sheps have high intelligence, high dominance and high potential for aggression if not trained very carefully.
I have been working as a canine behaviorist for many years and have encountered many sheps with behavioral problems as they are very sensitive dogs. Doesn't mean they can't make great pets...you just have to really know what you're doing.

Indeed.
When I first got my shep it was a nightmare.
She's a good dog now, but nothing like the other dogs I had before.
They are not for the average handler!

Check the bottom External links. Those sites will most likely answer most of your questions, if not branch off to other sites that will

Search harder. Try going through AKC website to find some links. Or go buy/check out a book about them.
