Is it a very young puppy, or is it part/full grown?
Regardless of either, talk to your parents about it.. Jacks, more so than a lot of terriers, have the potential to get really bad and snappy. If it's defending as soon as your parents/family leave, maybe it doesn't consider you family yet? Play with it n shit, when your parents are there, and possibly take its cage away if that's the main source of its defensiveness. A lot of defensiveness comes from the animal being scared though, so give it time also.
