How can I get my cat to let me put his collar on him?Every time I try he just scratches my hands up really bad.

Pic is the little bastard.

Yeah I wish I could collar my cats, and make them look like they officially "belong", but they won't have it.

I just want to get the collar on him because I got him a tag in case he ever gets away.

I even tried this, he went for the fleshy exposed upper arm instead :(

wrap him tightly in a towel with the head exposed, he wont like it, but it'll get the job done.

then you're probably not trying very hard.
it's ok to be a little forceful to get the job done, it's not like you're trying to kill it. just hold him down for the 20~30 seconds it takes. hold the wrapped cat inbetween your thighs or something then put it on real fast. you're stronger than a cat, anon, you can do this!

My cat is, admittedly, a lot less aggressive than yours, but the approach I took with mine was to flip him on his side and fasten the collar from the back.

Sedate him.

Finally got it on him. I waited for him to take a nap and then put it on him really quickly and carefuly. Now he's sitting here dumbstruck like he doesn't know what just happened.
I hope he doesn't try to take it off now :/

What kind is it? It is a dog collar type like a belt or an elastic kind or a safety collar?

Its a regular kind with a weird snap clip. Pretty cheap looking. I just left it a bit loose after the first collar I had on him, which left a couple sores on his neck and cause him to lose some fur on those spots. It took him a few months to recover from them so I'm still a bit warry of using a collar.
