/an/, I have come to rage, because I can't stay silent a minute longer.

In short: if you're a cat owner who lets their cat kill local wildlife and you think that's okay, PLEASE DIE.

Long story: I just broke up with my girlfriend. We've been going out for four months, and today I went berserk at her.

The reason: She has a cat who cannot stop killing birds, lizards, and today a flying fox. The flying fox was the final blow.

See, she has a fence running down the side of her house which is topped by barbed wire (guy next door is a fucking security nut), and two days ago I find a flying fox caught in the wire. The wire had cut through it's wing and tied it there. It had broken it's wing and needed a carer, so I call one. She tells me that if it's still alive in the morning to give her a call, as she doesn't have a car until then (it's about ten at night).
I took a shining to it (it's a red chested flying fox, similar to that pictured), and wanted it to get better.

Not only did she not call the carer in the morning, today I find that the cat killed it. Just for fun. When I shouted at the cat, she says this: "That's just what cats do. *giggle, pats cat* Besides, it's just a flying fox."

I go berserk, break the coffee table and storm out, breaking up via text.

Comment too long. Clickhereto view the full text.

Looks kind of like copypasta but i'll reply anyways.

I have owned cats my entire life and don't like when they kill stuff either, especially when they leave their half alive prey to slowly die. I've noticed some cats are more bloodthirsty than others.

Also, dogs kill stuff too. When dog sitting, one of the dogs saw my parrot on the floor and made a mad rush towards it and almost succeeding in biting its head off before i intercepted and kicked the piece of shit out of my room.

>>283031

Yeah, I'm not disputing that. Dogs are hunters too.

But the owners are at held WAY more accountable if the dog kills something. And they tend to feel just as bad too.

BTW, not copypasta. I am so mad about that, the flying fox didn't deserve that.

Where do you live, OP?

I have two cats, who go outside, with me, supervised- like my dog. They come inside with me, like my dog. I don't leave them alone to get in to trouble- I wouldn't with a young child either. Cat owners need to be more responsible. So many of them seem to just think everyone else should be expected to be okay with their cats trespassing on to their property, shitting in their flower beds, killing the local wildlife everyone should be trying to preserve (and cats don't care if it's endangered or not), pissing off their own pets, etc etc...

Cats are predators. So are dogs. Both will kill something small and wild given the opportunity, but the actions of both are 100% the owner's responsibility. Why are dogs controlled, but most people don't bother with their cats? I don't get it either.

Poor flying fox.

waste of a perfectly good relationship over a cat doing what it was born to do. Didn't realize australia had such raging emo fags.

My cat used to kill mice and other small rodents, then we switched food brands until she stopped hunting (to our knowledge of course) and now she seems content. She once took a bird, but she didn't hurt it a lot. Simply held it down. Then we noticed and let it free, seemed unhurt.

One of my dads work buddies has a fuckcrazy cat though.

It's killed the owners cousins 14 year old cat, a couple of snakes, birds, all kinds of rodents and blinded a pitbull. Most of this while the owned held the other end of the leash. But the owner has some mental illnesses so her family lets her keep the little killer. Oddly enough, he's gone mellow these last months.

Even more oddly, he's scared of me and my cat.

I'm inclined to agree. It's just another fuzzy citizen of the area OP, unless it was someones pet or something I don't see the issue. I can kinda understand being upset over it, but taking it out on the cat and your girlfriend? Way to be a fag
>> Anonymous
My cat catches thing quite often, especially in this house that's out in the country. I've pretty much taught her to bring whatever she finds to me though, which is normally a mouse. If the mouse is hurt, I keep it a little plastic hamster tank that I bought, and give it water, food, bedding, and some soft rags.

During the winter, I had about 13 mice in a 10 gallon tank that I was taking care of, because I didn't want to let them out in the snow. They ended up breeding 3 times. They eventually became semi-tame, to where they'd come out when my cat was sitting next to the tank.

Domestic cats kill for the fun. Stop fucking bitching about it and live with it.

If you hate killing so much then go become a fucking vegan.
>> Anonymous
can't blame the cat, sadly. They're hunters with the reason to hunt taken away by people who pamper and feed 'em, and they just don't know what to do with all the instincts.

If people want to try to take the cat out of the cat by sticking it in a house, then they really need to do it all the way and take responsability for them.

Letting cats outdoors is a pretty bad idea, anyway. There are a lot of nasty diseases and dangers that face outdoor kitties, and they generally live much shorter lives.

Those presents they kill, eat half of and leave about, as sweet as it is that they try to feed us like that, can harbor some nasty diseases and parasites that we can get as well as them.

If you love your kitty, and you love critters, keep 'em inside with you. Provide them with toys and things to climb on, and they'll be happy.

I agree with OP.

I can understand why OP is upset. I hate people who have pets and absolutely adore them but have no sympathy for wild animals because they can't cuddle and play with them. I personally couldn't date someone who could care less if they hit a raccoon or run over a squirrel. Luckily my current girl is the kind who will drive into a ditch before she hits an animal. Might sound stupid to those of you who aren't completely obsessed with animals, but I'm a vet tech, so that kind of shit matters to me.

I would've done the same thing OP. Your ex sounded like a dumb bitch.
>> Anonymous
While I agree that your girlfriend is grossly irresponsible, and fails to recognize how serious the care of another living creature is, I cannot understand why you would shout at a cat who can't understand your self-righteous anger about the death of a creature it saw as injured and prepared to die. A hunter's natural instinct is to kill sick, injured and dying animals; it is a part of the natural cycle. The cat is not to blame for listening to its instincts.

There is no excuse for letting a cat run around outside putting a dent in the local endangered animal population, but that is the owner's responsibility. I do think you're being a little high and mighty about your place in all of this however. How can you really decide what is better: for the flying fox to live through a long period of pain and suffering, with the chance of rehabilitation under human care (where it may never return to the wild), or for it to be put out of its misery now? You simply cannot know the answer to that question unless you are a flying fox.
>> Anonymous
>>283113

Not the OP, but I don't see why the cat is allowed to make that choice, or why the G/F can be so nonchalant about it, seeing how this has obviously happened in the past and has done NOTHING to remedy the problem.

I don't care what kind of animal it is, the basic neglect of the owner led to the animals demise. Pest control is one thing, but cats are fucking menaces who kill anything for fun and people think it's completely OK, it's just instinct. Well, if it cannot be bred out of this habit after generations of breeding than maybe they should be reconsidered as pets...

>>283027
wow

I hope you never find love again and the family sues you for breaking their property.

Cats, like every other non-vegetarian creature in existence, KILL OTHER CREATURES DUE TO THEIR NATURE.

If you can't understand that, no, don't become a vegan, KILL YOURSELF. You honestly do not deserve the life that was given to you, and you do not accept the place you have in the circle of life.

Here's hoping for irony in that the next flying fox you try to "save" bites you, gives you rabies, and you die from it.

......And your ex doesn't show up to your funeral

What, you think animals of different species are going to be happy little butt-buddies with each other and get along like they're friends? No, it's not like that in nature and it will never be like that. You're naive, and you lost your girlfriend due to throwing a bitch fit about something even kids can understand. Good job.

>> Anonymous
>>283110
You're an idiot.

In no way is an animal's life worth driving off the road and possibly endangering yourself or others.

Human beings are at the top of the food chain for a goddamn reason. We are simply the best, and perhaps unfortunately for all the other animals out there, it's the big dog that sits in the porch while the pups play in the yard at the alpha's liesure.

Humans, while destructive and lacking in responsibility, should always come first. If you don't think so, go live in the fucking woods.

Hey guys! My dog like to hunt down and kill cats, I think it's ok since it's only natural that my dog would want to do that, I just pet him and give him a treat, and throw that nasty cat corpse in the garbage.

Sometimes, they even have collars and tags, lol! But it's natural so it's not bad in any way at all.

Cats were domesticated for this exact reason, not in spite of it. They will always be welcome in man's house as long as they kill pests and don't hurt people.

>>283409
True. But it was kind of her fault too for dating an assburger.

>Cats were domesticated for this exact reason

Yeah, that's fine and dandy when you have grains and crops to protect or a reasonable pest problem, but when it's just cold-blooded killings in a normal household is just like having a sick 12 yr old lighting small animals on fire in his backyard cause he thinks it's "fun".

>don't hurt people

Well fuck me sideways, I've NEVER had a cat claw, scratch, bite, hiss, jump at, etc. me in my entire life, oh wait, that's EVERY cat.
>> Anonymous
I think the problem is more of the girlfriend's attitude about the Flying Fox than the fact that cats kill things. The girlfriend should have given a shit, at least about your feelings about the bat, and didn't, and that's why you should have broken up with her.

No reason to be mad at the cat, though... it's an animal and it has instincts.

OP, I think you should be pissed at your neighbor for having a barbed wire fence - that's how the bat was initially injured in the first place...

Well... its pretty hard to suppress a cats nature. Cats will do what cats will do. I have no problem with my cats eating what they eat and killing what they kill. Now if there were some creatures around that my cat SHOULD NOT be eating and I could somehow protect them from my cats, I WOULD, but if its just a squirrel or a rat or something like that, Im not going to bother with it. Its not hurting anything.
>> Anonymous
I'm sure Op wouldn't be whining if it was an ugly animal the cat killed.
>> Anonymous
Although I guess it is different from America And Other parts. My cats do not kill things like that, and they have never really decimated anything that I know of. NOW, if I catch one of them playing with something instead of just killing it, I will stop that... otherwise, I just let them be.
>> Anonymous
OP you over reacted. You seriously just made the world's
biggest ass out of yourself. To quote an oldie but goodie- Two wrongs don't make a right. (three lefts however, do)

It's OK to be upset about it, more-so if you'd told your ex that it bothered you that she let her cat do that. I'd say it was rather callous if she didn't take your feelings seriously. However, there was no reason for you to go berserk and break things. And breaking up via text message?! Are you still in high school or something?
I think you may want to talk to a counselor before you push away other people or hurt someone.

I agree with the other people who've called OP's ex irresponsible. If it's going outside it should supervised or at least be secured on a leash.

No, you can't blame the cat, whatever it's reasons for killing the bat. It is an animal that doesn't place as much value on the lives of other creatures as we humans do. When it comes to animals you're either an enemy, a friend, or food.
>> Anonymous
it IS what cats fucking do. they hunt. my cat kills little sparrows all the time, it makes me sad, but the cats aren't allowed inside and it's not my house. if their mom has taught them how to hunt, like they would in the wild, you can't stop them.
motherfucking circle of LIFE, bitch.

Jesus Christ. Get your priorities in order, you whiny faggot. Instead of bitching about a fucking cat, how about you move the fuck out of Australia, where they even have those little flying draculas for the cat to kill. How do you find time to bitch on the internet between bouts of fighting off those horrid things. Just because the cat didn't have a whip or the name Belmont it's not okay for him to bravely defend his master against those little winged bastards? He probably saved your ex's life. You make me sick.

Cats kill small flying and squeaking things. That's how they work. Sometimes they're ninjas, and will do backflips over flower planters to take off after a hare they shouldn't have even been able to see, and then will latch onto it's haunches as it runs with their claws and take it the fuck down. OP is a faggot.
