This is probably the only time in my life I've seen such a huge cloud so low.

Does anybody know why these form like this?

Also ITT, interesting cloud formations.

That's really interesting, where were these pictures taken?
>> weather guy
>>268397

Very close temperature / dewpoint spread, very humid air - looks like a huuuuuge thunderstorm cell which is pretty far away from where the pics were taken. If those clouds were right above you, you would be shitting brix for very strong downdrafts/hail/heavy rain and possible tornados

Fort Wayne, Indiana.

I felt a bit dumb at the time, but I was in complete awe at seeing such a huge cloud...

>>268641
I don't remember it being particularly humid, but it was a nice day.

>>268397

Looks like a normal thunderstorm on the horizon.

Well, it was about the only cloud in the sky. All the rest were wimpy little whispy things.

And like I said, the city or surrounding area didn't get any storms.

My friend sent this to me a while ago, I think he said it was taken just before Hurricane Katrina hit.

I don't know shit about it myself, I kept it because it was a cool image.

Given the frequency of severe weather we've had here lately, I'm inclined to agree with this fellow. But they are cool to look at. =)

Do you live near coldwater road in Fort Wayne? I swear I know where this pic was taken.
>> Anonymous
>>269030

Haha, Anon is sharp!

I don't live in Fort Wayne itself (I live between the Fort and Auburn, actually), but yes. You're right. It was taken right off Coldwater Road.

I wonder if you're still online now. It'd be fun to meet another Chan-tard.

I knew it. That's close to an arcade, a korean grocery and a thai restaurant right?

If we meet up, can I suck your dick?

The height of clouds above the ground is completely predictable given the ground temperature and the dewpoint, as>>268641said. The dewpoint, if you're unaware, is the temperature at which the air condenses, the temperature at which clouds form. It is (simplistically speaking) a function of the humidity (scientifically speaking, not "Damn, it is hot and uncomfortable out here" speaking). The temperature of the air is a function of the temperature of the air at ground level and the height of the air in question.

For any temperature T and dewpoint D in Celsius, to get the height of clouds H in km, H ~= (T-D)/8.
