What are your thoughts on Siamese fighting fish?
>> Anonymous
used to breed betas. cool fish.

I work at a petstore and have had Bettas my whole life, and for some reason it pisses me off when people call them chinese fighting fish.

I've heard Siamese fighting fish, but CHINESE?

>>228345

Great beginner fish. Lazy, can be kept in a relatively small tank, feed small amounts, nice to look at, bitch to breed though, I've heard.

My friend bought one once but the move tripped the fish out too much and it died.

I like the fish, but hate the HE NEEDS A 60 GALLON TANK TO BE HAPPY fags these threads always attract.
>> Anonymous
>>228406

If you hate that, you don't want to be around for the damn goldfish threads where they calmly sit there and insist that goldfish grow to the size of koi.
>> Anonymous
>>228407
Um, common goldfish grow up to two feet yo.
>> Anonymous
>>228409

Yeah, over 5 years, unless you overfed it so much you're cleaning goldfish shit out of your tank each week, twerp.

Bettas are underrated by fish enthusiasts, and bought too often by impulsive dildos who think it's okay to keep them in a tiny cup. They look beautiful in a 5 gallon tank with live plants, or at least a large bowl.

Agreed. I keep mine in a 2 gallon and he's happy as can be, and quite beautiful.
They're damn good fish for beginners.

it always makes me sad when I see a bunch of them in pet stores in those tiny five ounce bowls they keep them in. They're such pretty fish and they barely have room to turn around.

But like most pretty things, they're also huge dicks, so maybe they deserve it.
>> Anonymous
I accidentally killed mine because I didn't wash his tank thing.

i like. got moar betta pics?
>> Anonymous

Yeah, it sucks, but it wouldn't be cost effective or easy for a store to maintain a tank for every betta.. they're only like 3 dollar fish and a lot of them die in transit and while waiting to be purchased.

Thing is, even in a large tank, you have to make sure your filters are pretty weak, otherwise they get sucked near the filter.

They're fucking lazy fish, no wonder fish stores think they can keep them in tanks the size of a whiskey tumbler.

I'm glad someone else noticed that pretty people are usually dicks.

Mine attacked people when they tried to stick a finger in the fish bowl.

Troll or retard, that is the question.

lol genetically altered....

Betas need to be in a small space, such as a small bowl or small tank with lots of plants to hide behind. You can put males with females or females with females no males with males. You dont need a filtration system. The males attack anything that looks like a male Beta. Both males and females will blow bubbles at the surface to form a nest for when they want to breed. Hope this clears up you people who obviously know nothing about your Beta.
>> Anonymous
Its true go look it up I used to sell Betas for a living
>> Anonymous
>>229137
yup troll. Go hide under your bridge would you?
>> Anonymous
>>229136
Eh? You can put females together? Never heard that before.
>> Anonymous
Female Betta kick ass, i have 3 and the pecking order is always interesting to watch, they do some weird things, the dominant one is very active and is policing the others when she feels like is, the others give submissive posses and often will do something that looks like caressing the big one... its weird... and oh ya did i mention mine like it when u pet them? no shit fish that like to be pet, strange but true.

Wow. Bettas are in a group called Anabantids (which includes other fish like gouramis) that have a labyrinth organ that allows them to breathe very moist air from the surface. A far cry from being the only fish that can do this, and a far cry from a genetic alteration.

First off, it's spelled "bettas," and pronounced with a long "a" sound, not like the Greek letter. Second, they do not need a small container, though they do like a small hiding area, be it made of plants or a decoration/cave of some sort. Third, male and female bettas CANNOT be kept together for any length of time. If the female wants to mate, they mate, and then the male chases her off from the bubble nest. If there's nowhere for her to go, he kills her, because she is a threat to the eggs/fry. If the female doesn't want to mate, he kills her anyway.

Female bettas should be kept in groups of no less than three due to aggression/pecking orders, and in a tank of no less than 10 gallons. They are just as pugnacious as their male counterparts as far as territory goes, and even in the conditions I described, they don't always play nice.

Speaking of bettas and filters, I'd like to put mine from his 2 1/2 gallon tank into a 10 but last betta I had in there got thrown around by the filter (no settings I could change on it either). Anyway I can make the filter not make a water kite out of my fish?

>>229312

"Any way". Two words.

Try physically redirecting the flow of water from the filter. With like a rock or something.

Not true for males and females. They will kill females if they are not nesting.
I tried to breed two of these. He ripped her fins apart.
