'sup /an/.
The wife 'n I just moved to a new house, and the floors aren't carpeted. The house is also a lil bit colder than our apartment was. Because of this, our ferret is only sleeping on the bottom of the cage inside the shirt we have in their for him. Also, for the first hour or two after we got here, he was shivering a bit. My question is, how do we keep him warmer? He used to sleep in his lil triangle hammock thing, now he doesn't come out of his little blanket fort. We have the heater on and a blanket over his cage. We were also thinking of laying a blanket between the bottom of his cage and the floor. Any other suggestions?

tl;dr: how do we keep the ferret warmer in our house?

Hmm... Other than making sure the room itself stays warm not really. Perhaps putting some rugs down would help. Although you might think about putting his blanket in the hammock. Also, remember they sleep a lot, perhaps yours has changed it's hours?

Nah, his hours are the same. Just his spot has changed. He used to sleep in his tent thing (pictured), where we had one of the sides opened. It was also suspended on the top of the cage, level with the 3rd floor. Now he just wraps up in the shirt on the very bottom of the cage

Put some more blankets in the cage

putting something under the cage should help some since the wooden floors are cooler then carpet or a blanket.

You could get a space heater with fire protection and leave it on low by his cage at night.

Ge a small fire safe space heater. Don't leave it too close to his cage or on too high, cause you can kill him with heat. Also, get some blankets and rip it into large enough pieces to put on e over each layer of the cage. If your cage doesn't have solid floors, only wire, then get some linolium and lay it out. Cold + wire = sore ferret feet

/an/ seems to know more about warming up ferrets than anything else :b

Well it helps that I have a pair of them. :P I always keep blankets on the floor of the cage. They like to bed in it, and they like to play with it

He's not acting that way because he's cold. It's because he's in a new place and feels nervous. Once he's shat in all the corners he'll feel more confident, don't worry.

To summarize this link for your question.

Ferrets can handle cold pretty easily. It says that they can play in the snow easily and can handle cold lower then 60deg. I don't expect your house is much colder then that, although I guess it might be.

My ferret is in the garage and doesn't seem to have any issues with the cold. It goes below 60 in there im sure but I live on the Or coast so it cant be much below 50. Sure she sleeps in a little bundle under a blanket or in her hammock thingy but I think its more of a comfort thing.

Like that link says use your best judgment but I honestly dont think you should worry much.
