In the research that I've been doing over the past several weeks, the function I understand UVB lighting to provide is to allow the dragon to synthesize Vitamin D 3 in their skin. What I need to know is, other than VTD3 synthesis, what other (necessary) functions does UVB lighting provide? And, if VTD3 synthesis is the ONLY function UVB lighting provides, is a calcium + VTD3 dusting supplement, such as rep-cap calcium + VTD3 powder an alternative to UVB lighting? Please understand before you kneejerk - I am absolutely NOT looking for ways to 'cut corners' in this dragon's husbandry. I am asking to learn, and to get an idea of exactly how urgent it is for me to purchase a fixture for the UVB light I purchased, as I have other financial obligations that need taken care of. If the UVB light is an urgent necessity, please rest assured that I will purchase the fixture immediately. This dragon is at no risk of injury or disease due to personal ignorance.
I don't know what else it provides but you need a light that emits uvb and uva
I've never owned a dragon, but have helped raise red-bellied cooters. The uv light also served to prevent fungi from growing on their shells.
if you've purchased a bulb already a flourescent fixture is like 9 bucks man. and yes, you still need the light and the supplementation.
