This is Frankie, a 13 week old stray that was severely injured by a wild animal. He received over 100 stitches to reattach the torn skin. However, severe infection set in and the skin began to die. He's had three surgeries to date to remove dead tissue from his hind leg in preparation for amputation of the injured limb.

The vet seems discouraged by this case and even offered me another cat to replace Frankie. Fuck that.

I've done research and found that cats adapt well to amputation, however, I'm still struggling with the idea of whether or not this is humane and that he may suffer for the rest of his life.

Despite his injuries, he is full of life and acts like any other kitten. He runs around, pounces, even leaps onto the furniture as if he doesn't have a cast on protecting the fragile flesh of the limb that keeps wanting to split open.

Frankie's mother and siblings were all killed grusomely by a tomcat. He managed to survive the incident, though we're not sure how. He's been through so much in his short life and I want to make the best decision for him.

Does /an/ have any experience/advice?

im sorry about your kitten....honestly there are millions of healthy ones out there suffering and waiting for homes....i wouldnt put him through that let alone the money it will cost you..

OP here. Money isn't an objects as the vet has offered to help with funding from donations.

Keep him. There are many kittens, but this one is yours. He'll adapt and be happy.

i knew a cat with three legs, happiest thing i've seen in years, the only problem was that she couldn't scratch one side of her head, but that was it, she got along fine.

she even lived to be 17.

Amputations aren't inhumane. Putting him down while he still has a good chance to live is, however.

Give him the amputation. Many animals adapt well to missing limbs. It's better that he's so young, which means he'll probably adapt faster.

In the fine spirit of 4chan i have one thing to say.. DO IT FAGGOT!

But seriously, if you want to help it and you know it will both survive and be happy and adept to a missing limb, you do it. I wholeheartedly agree with>>284409

People live without legs and arms, why wouldn't a cat?
If he can survive, why not?
I don't see why kill him.

Cats usually do pretty well with amputation, especially if they're introduced to it at a young age. I say go for it. Nothing to lose, right?

Keep him if he's otherwise healthy! And name him Tripod.

Cats suck and are generally preferred by fags and lonely women. That said, the cat deserves a chance to have a little life for himself.

Besides a leg. -badum psh-

Save the kitten. Let the leg go.

Not a cat but my dog lost her hind leg and her tongue to a wolf spider, their venom causes necrosis so obviously the flesh in those area's died and had to be amputated. That was when she was 5 she went blind at 10 and lived till she was 13 only cause we had to put her down cause she got a brain infection that would not respond to antibiotics (can you tell I live in Australia?). Even in the vets with a horrible painful infection she was the happiest dog ever.

Moral of the story do the op, animals are so much more resilient than humans and he's so young he won't even remember he had 4 legs.

I cried irl.

Amputate. The cat will cope fine, especially at such a young age. You're obviously extremely dedicated to this cat, you've put in the time and research, and you have his best interests at heart. I think Frankie, regardless of losing a leg, would do wonderfully with you and would be extremely lucky to have such an owner/slave.

He'll have the operation in a week. Meanwhile, he seems happy to be home for now.

Thanks for the advice /an/

My kitten was run over by a car when I was thirteen, and I never got over it. Her front limb dragged and was smashed to hell, my mom had her shot. The vet said he couldn't do anything for her; but I was too young to realize amputation was an option and no one told me. I still wonder to this day if she would be alright if I had known better. Go through with the operation, you won't regret it. This little guy has been fighting hard, don't throw in the towel for him just yet. Good luck hun, and keep us updated.

Oh god that picture makes it look worse... I wonder if you can get him hooked up with some sort of prosthetic in the future.

I was too slow lol. Good to hear you're getting the operation done, OP. He looks pretty happy : ) Let us know how it goes! Til then I'll keep my fingers crossed for you both

Yeah, it looks pretty bad. He had surgery yesterday to close the skin on his abdomen. Now he's just missing a large patch of skin on his hind leg and he doesn't have the excess skin for a graft.

He's going to be the hottest looking cat on 3 legs.
