hey /an/

whats a good beginner lizard pet?

pic related, i had little anoles as a kid, i want a new lizard

No animal is a 'beginner' pet, it all depends if you know how to maintain and handle them.

My suggestion is a bearded dragon. Its docile and caring for it isn't back breaking. Same with blue tongue skinks.

pet rocks are great beginner pets!

I suggest Leopard or Fat-Tailed Geckos, they have less heating requirements, being nocturnal, and take up less space. Beardies are great, but they need a very large aquarium and adequate lighting to house them properly.

gold dust day geckos are cute, and mine let me hold it. Course the little bastard just wanted my body heat, but I guess we both got what we wanted

Geckos like this are not very suited to be handled. Their skin is very fragile and rips easily.

The Bearded Dragon and the Uromastyx are very good lizard pets that can be handled, as long as you don't hurt them. They like their chins rubbed and aren't too hard to care for once the tank is set up for their desert environment. Good luck.

bearded dragons are good beginner lizards. they eat a LOT so be warned. i have a 5 month old right now :)

Chinese Water Dragon for the win, other than getting a mister and a little pool for them to swim in they are low mantinence to the max. They eat less than a bearded dragon and are for the most part just as lazy, they remind me of my cat.

i'd go with a beardie or a leopard gecko. haven't kept any lizards myself..but if i were to get one, those would be my first choices. just make sure to do some reading on whatever you decide on BEFORE buying it. maybe find a good forum to join..should be more than enough free info there.

pic related..just watch out, sometimes they seem to shoot this fire like substance from their mouth..it can really ruin your day if you get hit by it.

Leopard Geckos are great, even though they're technically geckos, and not lizards. The average person doesn't care that there's a difference anyway.

They need feeding about once every five to seven days, a cage cleaning here and there, and fresh water. They can be handled, but you shouldn't handle one withing the first few weeks of moving it to a new location to avoid stress.

Also, get very fine sand for the cage, rocks or cedar chips will cause unintentional blockage in their digestive tract... which is bad. I think that's how I lost my first leo, but that was after 4-5 years.

They're quite nice-looking, too.
