So I posted yesterday.... my 11 year old wheaten terrier died last night. I'm coming home from school today to see her one last time, and then figuring out what to do with the body.

I called the vet and they don't sell caskets big enough for her. Should I have her cremated? I want to do something natural, not just the vet disposal. Also, I want her to be by the house.

pic related.... looks exactly like her

Sorry to hear about your loss.

My family usually opted for cremation. With jar personalization and stuff, you can make it really nice if that's what you want. I think you can also get things like picture frames that hold ashes, too, if you want to remember her like that.

Ah, here - http://www.ashestoashes.com/

Some of these are a wee bit on the creepy side in my opinion, but it'll give you an idea of what's out there if this is something that you think would honor her memory well.

Why can't you bury her without a casket OP?

If she had a favorite toy maybe it would be nice to bury her with that next to her too.

Or if you do get her cremated then why not scatter her ashes where she used to like being walked, or in your garden if you have one and she liked to hang out there?

she's pretty big. I'm going to discuss it with my parents today.

I think i'm opting for cremation. There's something about traditional burial that has always bugged me.

Does OP live in NY? Saw a dog like that dead in some boys arms yesterday. One of the saddest things I've seen in a long time.

No, WA....
wasn't there when she died, something I regret. It happened really fast.

Don't regret it OP, at least it was quick.

OP here. Just saw her and I honestly don't have the strength to bury her and neither does my dad. We're going to get her cremated so she will always be with us.

Here's the timeline of what happened. Blaming others won't get her back but I'm angry at the vet.

3:30 PM- Mom took her to the vet, they did X-ray and found a huge mass in her lung. Doc thought it could be a bacterial infection, or cancer. He was pretty sure it was an infection. He took a biopsy kinda thing with a needle and gave my mom antibiotics.

5:00- Her eyes look funny and she can't find a comfortable way to sit.

6:00-Shallow breathing

Died at 8:55. My mom sat with her until the end.

Didn't finish my post.

I think when the biopsy was taken it ruptured whatever was in her lung and spread (infection?) all over her body. She was still peppy and jumping around that morning my mom said

Throw it in a local river - there's a stream at the end of my garden with a fairly strong current that does the job nicely for me.

Burying/cremating pets is a waste of time and money, maybe when you kids move out of your mom's basement you'll stop being faggots and stop wasting her money.

ur a jerk! obviously uve never had a pet that u gave a damb about but its the loss of a family member... and would u EVER put a brother or sister or anyone in ur family in a fucking RIVER to get rid of them?? doubt it... and if u say u would... ur just a fucking troll that likes the attention. its sad that nothing loved u like a dog or mother could

My guess is you're a kid (obvious) who hasn't had many friends growing up and grew faar too attached to your dog, Maggie.

Maggie was nothing but an animal, and a stupid one at that. She's not a family member or a person and to compare her to one shows how immature and out of touch with reality you truely are. Go back to watching Disney films, kiddo.

dude, im 22 years old.fuck you whats so wrong w/ being attached to ur animals?? why even bother bringing them into ur life if u dont really give two shits about them?? ur the one that needs to grow the fuck up

>>248189
Stop trolling. You never had an animal and you certainly didn't dump it in a river. In case you actually did I'd suggest you see a psychiatric because there is a correlation between animal cruelty (Yes, that includes dumping dead animals in a river) and psychological disorders.
ah fuck it I got trolled

>why even bother bringing them into ur life if u dont really give two shits about them??

I did care about them, when they were alive. When they're dead what's the difference between scattering ashes or sending it downstream? I bet you've flushed a fish or two down the toilet so stop being a hypocrite.

>You never had an animal and you certainly didn't dump it in a river.

One cat I'd had for 7 years that was hit by a car and a dog I had for 18 years since it was a puppy that died of old age. Both were sent to a watery grave.

>In case you actually did I'd suggest you see a psychiatric because there is a correlation between animal cruelty (Yes, that includes dumping dead animals in a river) and psychological disorders.

How does dumping waste constitute to animal cruelty? Next you'll say throwing out leftover steak is cruelty to the Cow.

OP here. I know there are trolls even on /an/ and I was prepared for that when I posted.

Took her to the vet for a final time today, she's being cremated this afternoon and saying goodbye was one of the hardest things i've ever had to do. My dad jingled her collar on the way back and it just tore open the wound again. Wish she would have lived longer, she was the sister I never had. I got her when I was 8, i'm 19 now.

Thanks for the kind words

I know you're just trolling and I'm not going to take anything you put in your post to heart. I'm sorry you don't feel the same way about dogs that I do.

While you may be correct, regardless of "where we go" when we die, our bodies become waste. However, the same way you treat a human with respect after death should be carried over to domesticated animals.

The fact that you can just discard a family member as "trash" is a disgusting trait.
>> Anonymous
when our pet bunny died we buried him in the ground. maybe you should do the same. just remember to dig deeply enough so that wild animals won't dig him up. then the grave will be a place where you can remember him.

>dumping waste

You know, most humans on this planet have a desire to mourn when their loved ones (be it animals or other humans) pass away. That is why mankind developed an extensive burial culture (for both humans and animals alike). This is also what makes us different from many animals: Dead corpses are not treated as "waste" (Or nutrition for that matter), they are treated like when they were alive. This is also why we don't leave soldiers on the field to rot. Or throw our dogs in the nearest sewer.
I'm feeling like I'm explaining myself to some kind of alien.

there's a point

yeah, if the cow was a long time and beloved family member

Animals aren't family members, I think you've watched a few too many Disney films. What difference does it make if I throw a dog's ashes into his favourite stream to cool off in or his whole corpse? The dog's dead so it's not like he'll care. Both actions have the same result, it's just one's much cheaper than the other. Explain the logic in throwing ashes over dumping the corpse (LOGIC) and maybe I'll do that in the future. So far your argument is "lol that's what you do with dead things"

Hole in the ground, ashes or stream, it'll still become food for something.
>> Anonymous
>>248259
Oh OK so now it's suddenly the dogs "favorite" stream? Just piss off you sorry cunt.
>> Anonymous
>>248261
It wasn't, but lets say it is - would it make a difference?

>Animals aren't family members

Uhm actually they are. Well not all of them but dogs definitely.

>I think you've watched a few too many Disney films.

Not really. In fact I've never heard of people dumping their dead pets in rivers. However I know of plenty animal graveyards around here.

>The dog's dead so it's not like he'll care.

No but those who miss him do.

>(LOGIC)

Well there is no logic in dumping a perfectly fine dog, is there? Why don't people eat their pets when they die? Why are humans corpses not fed to animals?

>So far your argument is "lol that's what you do with dead things"

I think I made myself clear that a proper burial is the usual way to cope with the loss of a loved animal/human.
Of course there are different cultures - some cultures don't count dogs as mans best friend, they are considered food. I suppose in those countries it is common to throw dead dogs in rivers. So I ask you: Are from Chingchongfuckistan or are you some rage-against-the-machine-kiddy from a country in the Western World?

>Are from Chingchongfuckistan or are you some rage-against-the-machine-kiddy from a country in the Western World?

I'm a good Christian who believes only people deserve burials. Dogs can have one when they get a soul.

i say we stop responding to this prick... its only giving him fuel. we know how normal people feel about there pets, thats all that should matter.
>> Anonymous
>>248289
Yeah, sounds good. Although I have to admit I couldn't find any rebuttal to his last argument. I know it's bullshit and he didn't even bother to reply to my other arguments but I suppose in his own little fucked up world he is right.
But then again I don't know shit about Christianity and English isn't my first language either.
>> Dreamer
If you want to do the whole mourn-it-properly thing, I would say bury your dog. You don't need a casket. Double-wrap the dog with 3ply garbage bags and if you want you can put it in a cardboard box. Dig a hole that's twice as deep as the box is tall, and bury the dog.

If there are roots in the way, a mattock will help you.

her body is there to be cremated tomorrow. Ugh. Why can't they live longer? I just keep thinking how i'm never going to see her again...
