I'm looking to re-seed my lawn, but don't know what seed to use. I need something tough and hardy, for high traffic and high heat. Whats the best type of grass seed to use?

How big is your lawn? There's two types: hard grass that is tougher and softer grass. I'd choose the softer grass if you plan on using it often.

As for brands... the only one i know of is scotts. You'll have more luck with home depot or lowes garden aisle and hope a helper isn't an idiot teenager.

I dont know the square footage. the neighborhood kids play on it sometimes, but its mostly cosmetic. I need tough grass due to water shortage and 100+ weather.

bermuda grass, zoysia, and st. augustine are three popular grasses for the south east where I'm from. St. Augustine can't take freezing very well.
Bermuda will be brown for most fo the winter though...there are many varieties, find out whats best for your area...the garden people at Ace/home depot/lowes/any garden center will know..in fact they probably only stock suitible varieties anyway.

clover also makes a great low maintence lawn, but you either have to train it to grow low or keep it kinda tall

first thing i googled

If you're not looking for fancy grass, and if your yard is really hard to seed, my suggestion is to go to a horse stable that allows their animals out to pasture. Take manure, spread on yard. Smells a helluva lot less than cow shit, and since they only have one stomach, you get seed in it. Mulch, seeds, and fertilizer in one go.
Sometimes they just give it away.
It's what we had to do with our land. Construction destroyed the topsoil, clay for soil, couple thousand dollars later we took horseshit from the stables and wala, grass. It's thick and healthy.
