Ok /an/, a few days ago I bought two male blueberry dwarf hamsters from a pet store. I've had hamsters before, but not dwarfs and not two in the same cage. Google and the employees said that they'd be happier together, and wouldn't fight since they're littermates. They seem like they're both eating and drinking, and have been running together on the wheel.

Today I noticed that one of them was sleeping in their plastic igloo, and the other was sleeping in the bedding. I started talking to them, and the one in the bedding (Gibson) woke up and started walking around. At one point, we tried to go into the igloo, but the one already in there (Fender) started squeaking at him and wouldn't let Gibson in.

It seems like Fender has decided that the house is his, but is willing to share the rest of the territory. I'm thinking I might bring the bigger house back and get two tiny ones and see if that works.

My question is will they be alright living in the same cage they're whole lives, or will they get more territorial as they get older?

Pic related, it's the Fender, the one causing all the problems.

Research a pet before you get it. Hamsters fucking suck, and I'm pretty sure 90% of them are not social.

"Fender" looks like some sort of shitty mouse/rabbit hybrid. You should end cycle.

According to every source I could find, dwarf hamsters are social and prefer a cage mate.

Blueberry hamster? Wow, they sure know how to label them.

Of course websites are going to lie - they're fans of that pet so they're going to plug it. It's like how the RMCA says that rats have a "pleasant sandalwood odor", but I'm pretty sure my boys just smell like piss (I still love them).

Hamsters are not social, dwarves can live in family groups as long as they were never seperated, but they may still squabble anyway. Hamsters are horribly grumpy when they first wake up, and they will take it out on eachother, so that is probably what you witnessed. They should be fine, but they will always have minor disputes.
