Pictures from work. Tired Anon !EHsj4EGwIQ
Yea, had today off, so, after taking back the Boys, I decided to stick around and get a few shots. I have more than what I'm posting, but these turned out the best. And I only took pictures of my favorites... Time to post before I go hiking for today.

First pic is of "the Boys", 2 week old black spotted leopards. Pardon the mess, I took this before changing their towel.

That's it for now, though I'll get some more shots in later. I tried getting some of the adult lynx pairs (Siberians and Canadians) but they turned out horribly blurred, as well as the Carracal, which bummed me out.

I work at the West Coast Game Park Safari. It's a smallish petting zoo. It was originally a deer refuge, but the owner, Mr. T, decided to build more onto it, about forty years ago. It's now based in Feline and Primate Conservation and Research, as well as teaching the public about the specific species we have here. The active breeding program allows for hands on (sans the "petting park") for guests, interacting with cubs.
We work in the breeding of:
Lions, Bengal Tigers, White Siberians, Leopards (both black and normal coloration), Siberian Lynx, Canadian Lynx, Caracal, Servals, Black Bears, Hamadryas Baboon, Ring-tail Lemurs, Debrazzas, and Cotamundi as well as European Fallow deer, American Bison, Nelgi Antelope, Zebra, Elk, Caribou and Dromedary Camel.

It's a lot of work, and a lot of shit to clean up, literally.

went to your zoo's little website.
looks pretty shitty there. typical roadside zoo. cheap admission prices for cheap entertainment. constantly breeding rare/endangered animals just to get their babies for photos with tourists... then probably sending them off to a canned hunting farm once they get too big to snuggle anymore.

if i were at the USDA, i'd write you up for lack of public barriers, lack of animal enrichment, incorrect animal groupings, unnatural enclosures, and no evidence of approval from the AZA or APHIS... and that's just by looking at the pictures =]

What have you done lately to preserve genetic diversity ?

That's right, nothing.

"preserving" genetic diversity by breeding white tigers is like trying to preserve wolf genetic diversity by breeding poodles.

Nah, not really, Panthera tigris (white variant) is just a recessive variant, and... it's the same species as the orange colored ones. It's the fucking retards that inbreed them to hell to keep them white. It's preferable to simply breed them with another orange. It's the same for breeding black spotted leopards.

Oh lawd, is dat sum Downs?

>Nah, not really, Panthera tigris (white variant) is just a recessive variant, and... it's the same species as the orange colored ones.

Yes, really. Wolves and poodles are the same species, albeit different sub-species, and there are multiple sub-species of tiger.

There are NO pure white siberians in the U.S. or worldwide and no documented cases of white Siberians even existing in the wild. All "white Siberians" in the U.S. are mongrelized descendants of white Bengals crossed with Siberians to try and add diversity to a severely inbred bloodline. You're 'preserving' a genetic strain that only exists in captivity.

Sanctuaries (which obviously this "zoo" is not) do not breed animals for "genetic diversity." Hell, a sanctuary, by definition, does not breed animals at all. They adopt and care for old, injured and unwanted wildlife so these creatures and can live in peace - without doing shitty circus tricks, etc. There is no need to keep breeding them in captivity like this.

For ex: There are currently over 4,000 elephants in captivity around the world. None of them are returning to the wild. They're just being breed for circuses and shit. Why do we need circuses? (We don't.) Soooo... really no reason to keep breeding animals unless you plan to free them to the wild to keep the natural species/population going.

Eh.

Personally, I'm not here to get into an argument with you, or this guy below.
>>329792
If you want to look it up on the internet, feel free, and you're free to have your opinion. However, I did fubar the "siberian" and that was my mistake as it should have been Bengal. Information misfire. I am not omnipotent, so there are mistake.

However, Conservation parks/zoos do breed animals throughout the US, even more so in Europe, including the FCF and other private or state funded organizations around the globe to preserve exotic felines. That does include breeding "smartly" to reduce the chance of inbreeding and deformities, that unfortunately do occur when owners of a facility do not research the genetic background of their cats. A good example of the conservation and breeding programs are the Cheetah, who would have become extinct without human intervention. So, out rightly saying that breeding in captivity has no justification is a gross miss statement. I will admit that there's a lot of "breeding centers" that do this just for entertainment animals and exotic pets, and most of these indulge in interbreeding related cats, resulting in malformed animals.

I'm against exotics for t.v. entertainment, and for personal "pets" though there's nothing I can do about it, and the UFDA can't, or won't, put a stop on it. Without the proper care/housing facilities/nutritional requirements, the cat's suffer, and many are put down, while few are taken into sanctuaries.
>> Tired Anon !EHsj4EGwIQ
*continuing* We are, however, not a sanctuary, since we don't run on government funds, this park is privately funded. We don't accept rescued cats because there's simply no room to accept them, not without cramming them into small enclosures, which is not going to benefit the animals in any way. Big Cats of the Wild, the Oregon cat sanctuary takes care of the unwanted lions/tigers/etc. WCGPS is simply a small conservation/research/educational park. Not huge like San Diego, or the Portland zoo, but between all the visitors that are traveling along the coast, we've had more visitors saying how the animals at the Larger government funded zoos are miserable or stressed, compared to ours, who tolerate/enjoy (I can't read their thoughts, only their actions) the visitors, and the interaction they receive.

But, I don't own it, I'm just an employee who's trying hard to keep them happy. Besides, I don't really know how the subject turned to this, I just wanted to submit some nice pictures, tis all. But, meh, I'm not gonna argue, I can only give some info and just accept that people have their own ideas about how to care for cats, or what it means in terms of conservation... Anyway, hope some of the anons enjoyed the photography.

i'm not sure which is worse, spending my entire life in a factory farm lactating, or spending my entire life in a petting zoo being screamed at by juvenile humans.

That's what he was saying, cunt ? Or don't you know what recessive means ? Of course you get retards by inbreeding just look at yourself.

You think that nature ist static, don't you ?
Hey, guess what, statistics say we're overdue for a nice ass raping by a piece of cosmic rock and a ice age. And that would kill of plenty of wild animals.
And let's not forget that both Africa and Asia have decided to stop unindustralized hell holes, with a healthy dose of civil war and refugees living off the land in cas of Africa. Most earth species are toast unless preserved by mankind, wherever it may go on the future.

Before you start throwing insults around learn how to follow a preexisting conversation so you don't make yourself look like such a huge a tool next time, okay?

White tigers in the United States aren't bred for conservation purposes, they're bred for shows and for pets, and they exist in surplus. It's also unlikely, if not completely impossible, that there are any pure white Bengals still remaining in the U.S. outside of the Cincinatti Zoo because they've all been mongrelized with Siberians and Amurs. They're "trash tigers" whose bloodlines can't be used to preserve the sub-species. Even India doesn't want them to outcross their own population of white tigers with. It would be like trying to preserve one of the sub-species of leopard gecko by breeding it with a captive-bred (mongrelized) color morph.
