You may remember me. I posted last month on my new puppy with the incredible discipline problems. Well, it's not improved. It's so bad. I don't even want to be around her. If you pet her, she bites you, if you don't pet her, she bites you, she rips up everything, she was house trained but now has simply decided to stop being so. We've tried everything. First the whole "No!" thing. Yeah, that doesn't work. "No!" she barks or bites at you back. The 'ignore the puppy' thing? She simply doesn't care. If you ignore her or walk away, she goes and does something else. Lock her in a room? She honestly doesn't care. Hold her on her back? Nope, doesn't phase her. She's so violent and so destructive and in the month I've owned her I have yet to be able to just sit and pat her without her chomping my hand off. I'm at a complete fucking loss. I've had many pets in my lifetime including two dogs, I've never been around a dog so bloody aggressive. I'm just at a loss.
>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
Uh, who told you to hold her on her back? No wonder she's pissed off at you. That's incredibly rude. The whole "alpha roll" thing is used to instill *fear*, not trust and obedience. Fuck you, Dog whispering furfag.

Anyway, Have you tried keeping her on a leash near you at all times? Distract her every time she does something bad. I honestly don't remember you, so sorry if you've been over this. She is how old? She looks really young, if that is her in the pic (er if it's recent).

Put her on about a 7 foot leash. Take her everywhere with you. If you cannot be with her, put her in a kennel, with a blanket over it. Don't leave her in there more than an hour or so if you can avoid doing so.

Instead of saying "no", growl at her and bare your teeth. Not like, bare your teeth as in smile, but lift your lips and snarl at her. She'll learn quick. If need be, pinch her ear while you growl, just enough for her to feel it, but not enough to make her yelp or to actually hurt her. This simulates what a mother dog would be doing (ie, a mother would keep her nearby and keep her in line with growls, snarls, and the occasional nip).

Yea I normally BS a bunch, but when it comes to training techniques, there is nothing I hate more than the alpha roll. Well, maybe shock collars and beatings, but it's pretty damn close.

The 'hold on her back' thing was a last resort after everything else was failing. I've only done it a few times, she honestly doesn't care one bit. That's the big problem, no form of punishment seems to affect her in the least. She's very independent.

I've not tried keeping her on the leash at all times but generally when I do she just comes after my feet.

She's about 10 weeks old now (yet already more than strong enough to draw quite a bit of blood. She's a -very- powerful dog).

I'll try the growling and ear pinching. Someone else suggested a flick on the nose when she seriously bites. I did that, didn't even blink.

>>163105
How big is she? Any idea how big she will be when she is full grown? This is really something that you need to get in control of NOW rather than when she's a hundred pounds of energetic teenager. Also, get her spayed as soon as possible, that may help.

Aside from what I've told you, the only other thing I can think of is to muzzle her. If you go into a pet store, bring her with you, and don't let the dirty looks you will get when trying on muzzles phase you. Some dogs are incredibly independent, and if you honestly feel you can't control her, then perhaps it is a better idea if you find her another home.

Try the leash thing (You might try a harness, rather than a collar, as well), try growling and snarling, and use ear pinches as discipline, only when the other two don't work. So, growl first, then make eye contact and snarl, and then if she keeps doing it, grab her ear. Oh, and when she bites? Yelp. Make it sound as much like her pain-sounds as you can. Let her know that when she bites you, you aren't playing with her, and it hurts.

She is going to be huge. Rotweiler, German Shepard and American Staffordshire. I'm trying to get the cash together (and information as to where I can get them) for obedience classes.

I tried keeping her on a leash for the last little while, it consisted of me trying to not let her gnaw my feet off and her nearly choking herself trying to rip away. *sigh*

Wow, you certainly picked a mix, didn't you? It sounds like you would be better off with something that wasn't made of huge aggressive, strong-willed breeds.

Obedience classes won't help unless you can do as you are supposed to. If you only discipline her when she's at classes, then she won't behave at home. Dogs misbehave because their owners are not consistent. Fortunately, humans are extremely easy to train!

Seriously though, a "little while" is not enough to have an impact on her behavior. Did you squeal or yelp when she bit your feet? Make her sit and be still. Give her something to chew on, and pet her while she chews on it. That will get her to be still, will let her get out her aggression on something that won't bleed everywhere, and you'll be teaching her that she only gets to bite things you let her bite. Give her a week of constant leashing, and see if it doesn't improve.

lulz. I know it sounds faggy, but I had a dog sorta like that(not nearly as bad as your situation) but he responded to getting water squirted behind his eyes and forehead(never in his eyes of in his ears).
You really just need to find something that catches her attention, unwanted or not.
>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
>>163147
No, I'm saying that if you go, you have to actually use what you learn. Obedience classes are about teaching both the owner and the dog. You will learn how to control her, but if you only practice it at the obedience classes, then it will do no good. It's like catholic school girls that dress properly and act like perfect ladies in class, but dress like whores on the weekends.

Disclaimer: I'm very much a cat person, I understand cat behaviour and my experience is pretty solely with cats.

But whenever I hear the word "destructive" I hear "bored". How much time are you spending with your ball of pain? From the description, it sounds like increasingly less and less. Play with it, make it run around, wear that little fucker out.

And I found the one discipline which worked with my cat, who can be very mean, was a short sharp shove or slap. Obviously nothing which would actually hurt the animal, but hard enough to let them know who is bigger and who is in control. My mother refused to do this to my cat - my cat still bites my mother pretty often, but never me. Whenever she thinks she might have played a little too hard with me, she scrunches up her adorable little face expecting a shove/slap.

The reason this worked for my cat? Most likely because whenever one cat would get annoyed with another cat, they'd swat them to remind them who is who. Bitter has given you what dogs would do in that situation - and I'm willing to bet if you do it consistently and meaningfully, that this will work.

But, do also try to curb some of that natural destruction with a couple of toys and tiring interaction.
>> Anonymous
It's -very- hard to play with her. Once she draws blood it pretty much calls an end to play time. We got her a million toys, not much help. The moment she gets close enough to you, CHOMP! It's not just puppy nips either. She clamps then shakes her head, oy... Anyway, hopefully classes will help us out.
>> Anonymous
>>163188

Solution: Longer toys. Tug of war rope, make her run and chase after shit, things which put the action further away from your hand. Also, toys are not a replacement for proper interaction, so don't just shove the million toys on the floor and expect her to be thrilled.

Also, dogs are food-motivated. When she does something good, give her a treat, keep treats on you at all times, etc.
>> Anonymous
Beat the shit out of her. She does something wrong. Kick. She'll learn real quick. When both possitive reinforcement and negative reinforment fail. It comes time to kill her, or instill true disipline.

This actually works, you know. Hissing at my cat makes her slink off and hide unhappily. Growling and teeth-baring isn't something dogs just do for the fuck of it, they're telling you to fuck off, and if you do it to them they understand it is they whom should be doing the fucking off.

Pretty simple concept.

>> Anonymous
>>163205
I was expecting that kind of response, because people always go "but, MY pet wasn't ____" and then decide their one experience trumps the advice of professionals.

Some kids grow up to have no problems after being beaten. Some piss themselves until they're 14, some develop tics, some kill people.
>> Anonymous
>>163206
Well, you don't have to be a dick about it. There's also a huge difference to spanking your dog and BEATING it until it develops psychological problems.
>> Anonymous
>>163207
No animal is the same, some are more sensitive than others, and some are more sensitive to physical abuse specifically than others. No matter what kind of pain you're inflicting, it's pain, and it scares them because they don't understand humans as well as we like to think they do. Imagine an alien giant going "AJHSFJKHSGGSH," pointing at something you don't remember doing, dragging you over to it and then slapping you in front of it. It's not really the severity of the pain that's the problem, but the whole situation.
>> Anonymous
Well if you've tried everything and nothing works then I say it's time you just took the gloves off and beat the living shit out of her. It'll hurt you more than it will hurt her... actually, no it won't. The more it hurts the better. You'll know you've accomplished your goal when she winces every time you raise your hand or voice and when she automatically rolls over on her back the moment you look at her. Good luck. (try to enjoy yourself)

>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
>>163231
Fuck no! That is terrible! He endorses alpha rolls, and claims it is what wolves and dogs do "in the wild". It's not. A dog that is submissive will roll *itself* over, and does not require an alpha dog to do so. A dog that rolls over onto it's back for tummy scritching is a good, well adjusted, properly submissive dog. Shoving your dog and holding it on it's back is not correcting it, it is saying "I don't trust you to obey me, I am the boss and I will rip your goddamn throat out if you move."

I'm perfectly okay with being rough with your dog *IF* that is what the dog responds to. If a dog does not react to having it's ear pinched as discipline, then it may need a firmer hand. I don't think that beating your dog to a pulp because it bit your shoelaces will help matters, but a slap on the behind that is more noise than impact is okay. If you would do it to a child, I'd say it's okay to do it to a dog.

>>163201
It is not about pretending to be a dog or a cat. It is about speaking to them in a language they understand. An untrained dog will understand a growl or a glare more than whining at it. Definitely animals should be properly trained, but you have to learn to speak in order to learn to read and write. Some animals pick up human-constructed commands like sit, stay, fetch, etc a lot faster than others. Some animals don't. It's a matter of finding what works with that particular animal and that particular person.

I have never owned an undisciplined animal. Even snailcat, who is infinitely hateful, obeys me (she comes when I call her, if I say stop, she stops immediately). I've dealt with rescue animals that had severe behavioral problems, and you have to tell them what you want in a way that they understand, and every dog understands these things. Some just don't listen.

>> Anonymous
>>163096

I think I told you a simple solution before - try covering your hands and other stuff in something incredibly distasteful to your dog. Strong perfumes, Bitter Apple spray, durian, something!

Currently, your dog doesn't see the benefit in correcting her behaviour. Once you do this though, the dog will remember the bad taste in doing so and will stop doing it.

Also, take her on excessively long walks and wear her out. If she's too tired, she will be too tired to be destructive.

Puppy Crate Training is Best
Crate training a new puppy is the best of all worlds. Many dogs are kept outside due to their owners innability to properly train them on good house behavior. Of course, not all dogs make good indoor dogs but even the largest breeds can be taught how to behave inside your home.
Good behavior includes being able to be trusted in your home without chewing up your stuff or using your home as a bathroom
Crate training allows for boundaries to be set and provides a safe place for your pet. If also keeps them from being able to roam around unnattended especially during those critical first months of housebreaking and training.
The thing that's great about crate training is that depending on the crate selected, you can continue to interact with your puppy even if they're in the crate. There are several types of crates that are available today.
>> Anonymous
Fuck a crate, fuck harsh discipline, turn you back to her and fold your arms, just ignore her, it may be difficult at first, for you and her, stick with it, my puppy was stubborn like this too and now hes a wonderful little guy. >> Anonymous

So you dislike the guy despite the fact that his techniques work?
>> Anonymous
>>164116

I think he dislikes the guy because most dogs can do well without the dog whisperer's techniques, and on the other extreme, it can backfire badly.

If you beat and generally muscle your dog into obeying you, you will get a vaguely obedient and good dog, but you will *not* get an exceptionally loyal and smart dog, and chances are, if your dog becomes uncontrollable, nothing in the world will save your dog.

Seriously, do you want your dog to play fetch and beg and roll over because your dog's anxious to try and make you happy, or because your dog's afraid you might beat it?
>> Anonymous
>>164114

lolololol

"In the wild", no dog needs 'help' to be submissive. The ONLY time a dog/wolf in the wild will roll another on to its back is to kill it, plain and simple. The dog probably calms the fuck down when its rolled over in fear of its life. Who knows. It certainly is setting dog training back 40 years though.
>> Anonymous
>>164141

She knows she has the best of you right now, and if you do not help her to learn her place in the human world it will go very, very badly for her... and anyone/thing else she decides to turn on once she gets larger and more uncontrollable (and she will). Sometimes euthanasia is the only resort in dealing with an uber-alpha dog, and I definitely hope that it doesn't come down to that!

Starting now, this lil bitch works for EVERYTHING. Does she know how to sit? If not, then teach her. Down is the best command you can ever teach a dog - show her that one, too. She will not be fed until released from a sit/stay or down/stay, to your satisfaction. You will make a practice of touching her and taking her food away while she eats, and any sass will land her on her back with your hand around her throat. Not to injure her physically, of course! Just to re-establish your dominance... you may not be aware that you are being played, but you certainly are, and for her sake you must not allow it to go on!
