I have 2 pet rats, but they are a few years old now, and I fear not long for this world. One of the things I love to do with them is put things in their cage and watch them arange or build stuff with it. They seem to love decorating, and are always sad when I clean their cage eagerly waiting for me to put something new in to replace what I removed.

While I don't plan on getting new pets right away, I would like another pet that I can give random things to and they will do stuff with it. Something with a bit longer life span would be nice. Any ideas?

ferrets like to play with and manipulate things and make stashes

they also do a war dance when they're happy
it's fucking awesome

I hear kids play and do stuff with things.

But seriously, if you would be willing to invest in a ferret, they will play with anything.

A lot more demanding than rats but you can interact with them better.

Ferrets are really high maintenance and you have to be ready to spend some extra money on them if they develop one of many conditions (like adrenal gland disease) so just make sure you're ready.

Ferrets smell like shit. Get more rats.

I would vote strongly against a ferret. I was attacked by one at the county fair when I was 12 or so.

I hate those god damn things so much.

Ferrets only smell like shit if you don't wash their bedding ever.
