Hey rodent fags! Would sand be an alternative for hamsters for basic soil? Is it less stinky, easier to clean, etc?

I've never kept rodents for anything other than feeders for snakes, but most of them were frozen. However, I would say no..unless the particular rodent in question comes from a sandy/desert habitat. Might be less stinky, though not sure about that. Doubt it's easier to clean. Well...if you had a sandsifter, it could be easier to clean solid waste, but not urine.

Most hamsters are syrian, so sand would, now I'm no expert, probably be an okay choice. It's their natural habitat anyway, right?

Seconded on the carefresh and on the dumbutt. No cedar of pine shavings.
