I love rats. Who else loves rats?

Light one there is Vala and the dark one on the wheel is Sophie.

Heh, rats are awesome. We had one for a while, but then we bred her and ended up with twelve little rat children. Took forever to find them all homes. D:

I have 2 rats, both agouti dumbos. Chiyo and Veronica. The rex in the picture is Veronica and the standars is Chiyo.

I suppose i should mention that a rat with a rex coat has more coarse fur, and crinkly whiskers. Also I realized you can't tell which is which, so to clear that up, the one on the left is Veronica, and the one on the right is Chiyo.

Rats can be awesome, but it seems so damn hard to get most rodents properly tamed.

I have a hairless.

Her name's Caramel.

No pics, though. But I must agree, rats are pretty awesome.

Been breeding rats for few years now and what I've come to notice is no matter how much you tame (handle them as babies) the best ratkittens are always those from very lovely tempered parents and you barely have to tame them at all.
But rats are definetly the best animals there are.

My rats never play on their wheel, they just use it to prop things up against and hide treats behind.

What do you guys feed your rats? I was told to only feed them pellets, but mine refuse to eat them. I normaly buy them parrot food and give them some of whatever I'm eating.

I want to get a couple rats as pets, but I'm worried that the cage I might buy is to small.

What can you recommend as a good cheap cage to keep 2 rats in?

Well, Martins cages are good. They will run you a bit more money, but they are worth it, and have a high resale value. I made my rats cage out of a shelf i dumpster dove. I bought some 1"x"1 square mesh grating from home depot, and made them a huge cage. You can copy off of this persons design

http://www.dapper.com.au/cages.htm

I modified her design a little bit, but overall i have to say if you have a tall shelf lying about, then you have yourself a rat cage. All in all it cost me about 20$ to make a 5'ft tall cage for 4 rats.
