Mantis Shrimp in my acquarium!>< fred fredburger
hey /an/. I would like to wish you all a merry christmas eve. But thats not the reason why i'
m here (even tho you don't need a reason to be on 4chan). But anywayz, i just started a reef tank @ home. its a 24 gallon nanocube. We just got the live rock and nuthin was living (or was coming out) during the first couple of days. Then a family member noticed some sand being kicked up and little antanaes. then we saw the full thing...a little bitty mantis shrimp. After doing a quite extensive research on them, i relized it was time for the shrimp to go. But i'm mad scared of trying to trap it, and fail and then have it split my thumb. So what would be the best way to trap this little bugger? I searched on the intarwebs, but all i came up with was just like buying shit, and i don't have the time to do that and i'm getting my second batch of liverock pretty soon. So /an/ please help me in trapping this little son of a bitch!

Hah! Those things can wreck your tank, man. Hint - use some kinda tool to catch it. Something sturdy.

Whatever you do, videotape it.
>> mantis shrimps rock! me!
find what rock it is hiding in and pull rock out, hole down, out of the water over a net, save shrimp in something after you catch it, many people love them and would like to have it, take to the local fish store, they will find it a home.

Yep. Try out tongs and some thick-ass rubber gloves. Or one of those claw stick things.

Kill the bastard with a pointed stick.

God, I hate things which live in water.

THROW IT IN THE RIVER!

when you catch it, kill it, and make some coconut shrimp.
>> me!
these are eaten in asia, but not something i'd want to eat, i'm not big on seafood... anyway, there are a few options, but i still think youshould keep it... i keep one in a small tank and i put liverock in it that has bristle worms, the shrimp eats the worms, then i put the rock back in the main tank...
