Found in Connecticut USA if it'll help.

It has beautiful coloring and it's nice and glossy.

looks like Cotinis Mutabilis, the Fig-Eater Beetle.
they're common this time of year but I didn't think they lived on the east coast.

if it is what that is, they're harmless unless you're a composter, because they're 'in ur heap eatin ur organic materials.' weak mouthparts can only eat rotting vegetation

I see these damn things flying around here all the time in Illinois this time of year.We have a iron arch in our yard, with a hole at the top. And these things get up in there and fuck like crazy. you can smack the arch and they fall out. then stomp the shit out of them.
