What.
Oscars are peruvian white water ciclids.
putting them with coldwater carp would be a disaster
social, coldwater carp + aggressive white (soft) water ciclids = no.

you forget that they have been raised in ponds right next to each other for countless generations now...native water conditions no longer apply to keeping most fish alive and healthy anymore. That said oscars usually do rather well with goldfish provided they are similar sized and in a large enough tank.

Though there is always the chance that your foot long oscar will kill your foot long goldfish...but there is the same chance that your foot long oscar will kill whatever esle is in the tank with him anyway. I don't know how many pairs or trios or groups I've seen turn into single oscar tanks over night after even years of cohabitation.

Also that said, your average 4.5" african will kill an oscar twice his size 9 times out of 10 not assuming a huge tank. Oscars are much more laid back...most of the time if they can not eat it then they leave it alone. Africans have to pick and chase and nip constantly, oscars can't handle it.

tl;dr: just do it if they are similar sized, just be ready for the day you wake up and your goldfish is dead, but that day would come with any fish in an oscar tank, even other oscars more than likely. Also, no fantails, ryukins, celestials etc...plain old comets.

then throw in my shellies; brevis, multis, ocellatus, cyndrilicus (they are kinda shelly)

If you know cichlids then you should be able to tell that I love blue and black lol

the only bad thing is that most of those are psuedos and cynos, which can be difficult to keep in the same tank if they look to much alike, mean fuckers.

half of my african tanks are just BB breeders with pots anyway. nothing fancy
