I have a dog named Scooby and he is half Shar pei, half chow. Every time he gets a glance at another dog he barks at them and trys to attack them. What's wrong with my dog and why is he so anti-social?

Because he is part shar pei and part chow. He also was probably not socialized with dogs enough as a puppy.

it's probably the chow bloodline. I heard those cute dogs are very aggressive. I have yet to see a vicious sharpei though.

Yes, exactly.

No, it´s Sharpei bloodline that makes it so agressive.

A friend of mine has to take his Sharpei to a friend that lives outside the city, cause it´t temperament.

My family owns a chow/shar pei mix as well, and she used to get upset if anything in the house changed. She would bark at the furniture if we decided to move it. If the garbage can in the yard fell over, she'd attack it.

Its because both breeds are 'fear aggressive'. If they dont know what it is, they act agressive. They usualy lack the 'flight' part of the 'fight or flight' response.

Good breeders (and good owners) of fear-agressive breeds understand that the dogs must be introduced to new things when they are young, so that they do not react with agression when older . If you see something a bunch of times, it's not going to bother you anymore. Granted, everyone should socialise their puppy and take it to different public places (so it can experience car rides, strange dogs, different kinds of people, smells, and whatnot), but its especially important in these kinds of dogs.

Proably the easiest way to desensitise an older dog, is to get stuffed animals and to not let them chew on them and whatnot. Move'em around like real dogs, and generally show the dog that other 'dogs' are nothing to be afraid of (or attack).

sharpeis are bred for aggressive behavior
I have gotten bitten by one once on the arm and it left a nasty bruise
