So /an/ I am looking for advice. I have a shiba inu and she got sick in her first few months. We didn't have any ideas why she got sick, but we knew it was her liver. She was given pills and got better. Recently, we found out that some neighborhood kids were throwing anti-freeze soaked hotdogs into people's yards for kicks. We found our dog with a sausage only a few days before she got sick. Some of the symptoms were her eyes leaking a fluid and hacking, along with the inability to eat due to throat irritation. She's better, but I'm wondering if I should perhaps take her back to the vet with this new information? Is there a chance that this isn't gone because it's not just her being sick?

Advice? Pic related, it's my dog.

Take her to the vet and kill the little neighbor fuckers.
I feel like beating the shit out of the kids and their criminal irresponsible parents.
Hope she gets better. BTW, she looks beautiful.

You can train your dog not to eat food given by strangers or find in the yard. I'd call the cops and see if there anything you can do about it. Like criminal charges and make they pay for your vet bills.

Seconding what>>283172said. Take her back to the vet and tell them about what the asshole kids did. Then maybe the cops and/or whatever animal protection services are in your area. Adorable Shiba btw. I hope there is no lasting effects from the illness.

OP here. We actually have crimestoppers after the little fuckers. The terrible thing is that it wasn't just our dog, it was a bunch of people around our neighborhood.

I'm going to set up an appointment just to make sure everything's cool when it comes to this information.

Pray to whatever deity you believe in its not irreversible liver damage
No chance of transplant

A liver is a toxin screening organ (among many other things) and it is extremely resilient, it has to be

Chances are your animal is fine, although you should pay close attention to her skin and excrement, if she starts displaying strange symptoms like rash, fur falls out, dry ear skin, leaking pus from orifices TAKE HER TO A VET

oh, also watch for blood in the urine or a darkening of the urine itself, the toxin may have found its way to her kidneys

good luck

See if there's a dog detox treatment and do it, if anything just for the fuck of it.

Keep all the vet bills together and write everything that happened the best you can remember.
I think they *have* to pay for your vet bills, that's ridiculous.
If anything the dog is your property. They damaged your property, they have to pay. Damn, do we live in civilized society or what?

Kill the kids.

Preferrably by burning them alive.

Torture the kids in the worst way you can imagine, and then multiply by 20.

The Ethylene Glycol in antifreeze is actually non-toxic, however; when it is ingested it is metabolized into glyoxylic acid and oxalic acid. Both of these are toxic and the most common cause of death from poisoning is renal failure. Oxalic acid is a strong acid and will combine with metals ions such as Ca2+, Fe2+, and Mg2+ to deposit crystal precipitates of the corresponding oxalates. The precipitates are basically the same thing as kidney stones except they will be spread out among the organs, especially the brain, liver kidneys and gut. It is an extremely painful thing to have and if your dog dies it will be an extremely painful death. For people the main treatment of antifreeze poisoning is to drink large amounts of ethanol alcohol, since the alcohol competes for the same enzyme that breaks down the ethylene glycol. However I don't know if I would recommend this for a dog since their livers cannot handle alcohol the same way the human liver can. There is also an alcohol dehydrogenase inhibitor called fomepizole under the brand name Antizol that is out that helps for humans, although I don't know if a dog can handle it.

You must avenge your dog. But you can't really hurt the kids and get away with it. Pour sugar in their parent's gas tanks and see if they like it when their loved one is poisoned. Bricks through windows too. Something, please do something.

The only organ where people feel pain is their pocket. Sue the shit out of them.

Even better. That's a more rational response. But I don't know what I would do if some kids did that to my dog. The rage level would be considerable.
