I got this kitten today. It doesn't have a name yet. It's five weeks old, fed, and waters, but it keeps mewing. A lot. It just woke up from a good length nap about an hour ago, but it won't stop mewing. What could be wrong?

Possibly misses it's mother?

yeah. Pet it MORE

your cat is constipated, you need to insert your index finger into your cat and fish out the poop

this is likely the sad, sad truth. Enjoy your shitstorm

furfags gtfo, et see.

It also just shit on the extension cord of my fan. It promptly settled down slightly. It's got fleas, which are probably pissing it off.

This is what I'm thinking. Maybe after a day or two it'll get over this traumatizing experience.

five weeks old? the mother would aid it in pooping/peeing by liking its hindquarters/ass/asshole IIRC. No lie; google it. Use a warm towel of course. But hey, if you wanna use your tongue and you're a decent looking girl, go for it (pics obviously)

OP is an idiot. The cat shouldn't be separated from its mother until at least 8 weeks old, preferrably 12.

The kitten is broken im afraid. The only thing you can do now is to stomp it to death. Post pics plz.

guys get the fuck back to my /b/

Well what do you do when mother gets killed, for example?
>> Anonymous
Name him Ferdinand.

What are you feeding the poor thing?

Are you paying attention to it or just watching it from the corner of your eye whilst you peruse /b/?

Did you ever think to put items you don't want pissed/pooped on, or clawed, or whatever, somewhere where an infant animal can't get at them? (closet/drawer/high shelf) and put down some papers for it to piss/poop on?

Oh yeah, excpect much mewing.
I rescued 2 abandoned kittens at 1 week old. Never again. Constant mewing whenever they were awake for over a month. Also they WILL shit everywhere. There's nothing wrong with your cat, that's what newborns do.

The lady said it was fine, as it was eating solid foods and weened. Then again, she put seven together in a cage and chucked them in the back of her truck while it was raining so I'm not too sure she's very capable.

That was one of the original names. We (my girlfriend and I) decided on Bukowski, though.

I do try to ignore it the best I can, but I don't let it roam freely. I keep it around and play with it for twenty or thirty minutes every couple of hours, so it's not lonely or anything. I did put down a litter box for it, which it quickly figured out, but it also shat on my shoes for good measure.

Probably the most help out of everyone. Thanks.

It may have worms, no big deal you can pick up little pills at any pet store.

Oh, and name him Schroedinger.

I'm curious about this. 90% of people I've met/online sources think 6-8 weeks is fine. It's always been what I went by. However, as I will soon be the surrogate father of a litter of kittens, I'd like to know what /an/on thinks.

Yea.. the whole box/rain thing is proably why he's crying. Let him get used to you and learn you won't hurt him. If the runt starts purring, you should be okay. Seriously though, don't buy kittens from the back of a car. Also, five weeks is a little young even by lax standards, so expect to have to do more motherly things for it, such as wiping it's bottom to help it "evacuate", and softening foods slightly. Just because a cat is starving and manages to eat hard food doesn't mean it should or that it's good for it.

At 5 weeks, it's not a good idea to de-worm it like that. If you read the instructions on those packages, it usually says "not for kittens under a certain weight or age". IIRC it is usually 1.5lbs and 8 weeks. I havent had to de-worm anything in awhile though, so I dont really remember any clearerererer than that.

I've raised my cat since it was 1 day old, 2 at very best. It was placed in the ceiling of the apartment I was in by its mom and then she left, taking the rest of the litter with her and leaving this one behind. I can safely say it was ditched because my then-roommate and I had gone to work for a day before coming back and it was still mewing (of course, originally, we just thought it was a sqweaky fan or something and had left thinking management would come fix it while we were gone. Obviously, they never came by.)

She's 3 years old now, and mewed plenty as a kitten. I held her hind-end under warm running water to help her do her business, though she ended up having a shitstorm one day in her carrier because the running water and warm towel didn't help stimulate the bowels. I'm surprised she hadn't died or something, because she was about 2 weeks old at this point and she hadn't defecated ONCE before this point. Scared the Hell outta me, not even the vet could get her to go before then.

Fed her the milk formula from Petsmart as per instructions (the kind that's used for infant cats, racoons, rabbits etc) and went from there. Was kinda nice, she trained herself to go from different kinds of food at the right time. I had no hand in that =P She'd just abruptly stop eating what I gave her for some reason and wouldn't eat anything until I bought her the next-step up on the list. She even litter trained herself without my help.

Sounds like you're doing a good job so far, OP. Keep up the good work. When I got my cat he'd been weaned too early and now he's very needy and tends to "nurse" on my skirts (ie - he kneads them and drools all over). He's almost three now and while he meowed a lot as a kitten, now he tends to do it only when I pet him or if it's seven in the morning and there's not fresh food in his bowl yet, the little brat. :D
