Hey /an/Wondering if you could point me in the direction of a non-fish aquatic pet...someone that can't really survive if you let it walk around your dorm room. My college doesn't allow anything that could survive outside of water. This rules out turtles.I'm sorry for being biased against fish, but...I just don't really feel like it this time.
I think crawfish and little crabs are pretty cool. The water in the tank doesn't even have to be that high for them either. They're fun to watch and maybe even some newts? These are all things I've seen at a Petsmart along the giant wall of fish tanks. Now I'm not suggesting getting one from there unless your petsmart is far superior to mine. Mine is shit, there is never any filter pads in stock and when they are, the boxes are ripped and torn so everything has gone to hell.
>>239575Neat!! Thanks. Going to have to find a few species who can get along.
You can try shrimp, crabs, crayfishes, snails, aquatic insects, etcA good site for shrimp, crabs and crayfishhttp://www.shrimpcrabsandcrayfish.co.uk/
African Clawed Frogs. Buy them as tadpoles, grind up little clawed frog and fishy pellets to feed them, watch them grow! Not all of them will survive to adulthood but watching them grow is amazing and they're fully aquatic. I raised a pair from pups, they lived about 4-5 years and I miss the heck out of them. Plus they like their water a bit murky which is good for lazy folk.
Axolotls are awesome pets.I used to have two that would come up close to the glass when I played my music, and if I walked in the room they would come striaght up to the front of the tank. They are fun to feed too, dangle a bit of meat in front of them, and then SNAP in a split second the food is gone. They swim like crocodiles too.plus they look like dinosaurs and are adorable.www.axolotl.org and www.caudata.org are good sites.
>>239612how the fuck does that look like a dinosaur?
>>239616maybe Im the only one who thinks so?They stomp around like them when they walk aswell.oh well.
Elephant trunk snakes. They can survive out of water longer than a fish, but not much longer.
bumping this with more ideas. I'd like to maybe get a tank with some fully aquatic pets. Nothing that needs a huge tank either and or a lot of water changing.
>>239624all aquatic animals need frequent water changes...
arf
>>239624Something that will not need a lot of water changes.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecosphere_%28science%29
mudskipper. i know you dont want fish but you will have the coolest fish EVER.
>>239670Nice
>>239620has a mild venom
I say fuck your college's rules. When I was in college I had pet mice, a friend even had a guinea pig. As long as you can hide it under your bed when people are around you'll be fine.
get some predaceous diving beetlesshit's pretty awesome to watch if you keep the tank clean
>>239717OP here, okay, I forgot about these guys. They are pretty damn awesome.
>>239828I think you just meant the basic "fish" with a flat, spade like body. It swims in circles and never does anything of interest.
>>239829Yeah, you got me. I'm no bio major. :(
