>Australian arachnid.

Yes, Australia has one lone arachnid.

Incidentally, that photo is actually a Funnel-web spider, probably Sydney Funnel-Web (Atrax robustus). The males are pretty nomadic, extremely aggressive and very poisonous to humans. Cats however are immune, for some bizarre reason.

it's a spider eating another spider. the one doing the eating..i'm not sure about as far as which particular spider. it could be Eriauchenius gracilicollis. http://research.calacademy.org/research/entomology/personnel/jmiller/Eriauchenius.htm

either way..it is some Archaeidae.

Those are in my basement all the time =( And giant wolf spiders larger than a mouse.

Whenever one (or any other large bug) walks toward me, my cat attacks it XD She follows me everyone and kills the spiders within a certain radius of me. I love that cat.

Pic not really related.

Here's a really dodgy quality pic taken with a Sony Mavica about a hundred years ago of a Giant Stick insect I found in my front yard in Australia. Cute little sucker. The neighbour's boy loved it but we put it back out in the tree so she could go on to lay lots of eggs and have millions of babies.
