What the hell was it? Anonymous
Alright, so back to 3-ish months ago... Driving home at night with my girlfriend, turn up my street, see a shadow crossing the street. First instinct, its a cat. Wait, it has a long nose. Fox? Maybe...

A month ago, driving back home again, see another shadow on the street, definitely NOT cat or dog, fox still likely.

RIGHT NOW! Biking back home (class), see ANIMAL! No shadow, I SAW IT! Question... What the hell is that? That doesn't look like any fox I'VE ever seen...

Details, I'm at school in Newark, DE. Less than 10 minutes away of both NE Maryland and SE Pennsylvania, Jersey isn't exactly a hike.

The closest way I can describe it was that it looked like the posted picture. Except no hair or very short hair. It looked a hell of a lot like a chihuaua, except that it's tail was too long and the face was... more... pulled into the center... or something... Also, a chihuaua is small, this was just slender, although a roughly equivalent size.

All in all, definitely reminded me a hell of a lot more of a fox than any other animal.

Can /an/ tell me what I saw? If I saw a picture, I'd recognize it...

'Possum?

Anon here,

This was not a "common" animal. Possums have identifiable fur, a darker grey kinda thing. This was more of the color of the fox I posted or a chihuaua.

I'll tell you, I got a REAL good eyeful of this guy. He was perfectly in the middle of two street lights, but I stopped for like 20-30 seconds and just stared at the thing before trying to get a clear picture on my phone and he ran off.

Mange itself isn't life threatening.... Its the cold that kills the animals. Its a nasty parasite but its the animals that cause the fair loss and such.

sounds like the Cerocoptis mite

ie mange

what you're describing is a fox with mange.
>> Fox with mange Anonymous
We have foxes around in our yard and one has mange and we actually treat it. Go to a horse and tack store or Southern States and ask for Ivermectin or other anti mange stuff. They may be familiar with treating foxes with it because many do so. They come in syringe like things and all you need to do is get raw chicken from the grocery store, inject only a little of the stuff in the chicken since its made for horses, then leave it where you've seen the foxes. They'll eat it and it may clear the mange after a few treatments.
