Bi-Polar Cat Anonymous
ok /a/ ive got a problem. My cat is truly bi-polar (or so i believe). I go out to work and school and when I come back shes all over me.. licking me.. petting herself with my hand... everything. When I pick her up after being around a while she gets angry. Growling, and in some cases biting and hissing. Shell also come and lay down right next to me, and then ill try to pet her only to get bit. Shes not too kind towards my girlfriend either when she comes over. Any ideas /a/?

oh, in addition. Ive tried tons of techniques to alleviate the problems. When shes bitten ive "bitten" back pinching her neck... when she hisses ive hissed back... I even went a week without paying any attention to her.. petting, hugging, etc.

Although it may be possible that a cat is really bipolar (as in manic depressive), I assume that your cat is just like every other cat: egocentric. Most cats like being patted and cuddled when they are in the mood for it, but react funny or even aggressive when you try to touch them/ lift them up the rest of time. That's perfectly normal.
Watch the body language. When the fur starts twitching, the tail is shaking, the ears are pulled back, the eyes become larger, she tenses up or even growls -- stay away. Only cuddle her when she wants to be cuddled (= comes to you). As soon as she changes her behavior, shove her away and ignore her.

Eventually she'll learn that you won't annoy her when she needs her i-want-to-be-alone-now-time, and come to you to get her cup of cuddle.

PS: We're not /a/ but /an/. However, /a/ might have some intellectual thoughts on this problem too.
