hola /an/

first time here. so, i fell in love with this little beagle at this puppy place near my house. she was the cutest thing everrr and i wanted to just shove her under my shirt and take her home.

my questions are:

1. do they bark a lot
2. do they spaz out/jump when once you get home
3. are they easy to train? my friend has a german shepherd and whenever she needs to go out she stands by the door.

any advice on these things would be great, thanks.

To be blunt, beagles are stupid. They can take a long time to train because they thing with their nose instead of their brains.

ive been on a few sites and whatnot, but i just want to know if anyone has advice from personal experience.

They bark. A lot. And will almost certainly jump on you, because they're very high energy and need a lot of exercise. They were bred for hunting foxes - think of those guys on horseback running around with herds of baying, howling dogs. They're also quite difficult to train and prone to running away, being that all they were bred for is "Smell prey, run after, ???, PROFIT!"

They're not even in the same breed category as a German Shepherd Dog. Beagles are hounds, GSDs are herding/working.

No beagles are awesome. They are a pretty smart breed of dog and they are very loyal. Usually they only bark when they think you are in trouble (ie. someone at the door or unfamiliar animal in the back yard.) and yes they do try to jump up and greet you when you get home because they love people. Oh yeah they like to chase squirrles and cats because they are instinctual hunters.

Beagles are actually in the bottom 10 when it comes to intelligence. Along with every other hound breed. Hounds really aren't smart, they just do the only thing they know how very very well.

All of the dogs I've had in my life have been beagles.
They don't really bark a lot unless you neglect to walk them.
They can and will eat ANYTHING (my current beagle even eats waching powder) so make sure your food isn't within easy reach.
They are a bit on the dumb side but they are quite clever when it comes to escaping so make sure to fence up your yard because they'll tend to follow a smell and wander off.
They're quite good with children and other animals. My cat gets along famously with my dog.
It all really depends on the dogs personality when it comes to jumping and licking. They may bark a little (like a friendly yip) when they come home but a lot of dogs do that.
Also, if trained with food rewards they can become quite loyal and obedient.
