So I've been thinking about getting a hermit crab. And I've been wondering, would it be possible to mold a shell for it? Will it actually use it if I do? And what sort of material would be best/least dangerous for it?

All hermit crabs are wild caught as they cannot breed in artificial conditions. I'm not some sort of vegan/hippy but I wouldn't keep hermit crabs myself for that reason.

It's probably not a good idea to try and make a shell... But you can buy tons of shells from the same place as you got the crab

They are really easy to take care of, and kinda fun to have.

What you can do is get a shell and repaint it however you want (use waterproof paint though). They will use the shells that you give them, but they might continuously change shells if there are too many in their tank... so pick out one you want, and as soon as it gets big enough to want a new shell, it'll switch. Then take out the old shell.
