Bunny Death? Anonymous
I had a small little bunny, bought from a local petshop. I believe it was a white holland mini lop breed. My mother hated pets, so we had to hide it from her. I kept it in a pitch dark room in the basement for a week, only taking it out to play with it for probably 10-20 minutes at a time. changed food regularly, and there was water. after that week, it laid on its back with a constant high pitch squeal, then digressing to a weak squeal for about 40 minutes. then it died.

why did it die? i never understood why.

you sat on it
>> Anonymous
you bought it from an irresponsible pet store that failed to take care of their pets properly and you were the one of many to bring home a diseased animal.

>pitch dark room

Well there you go. What the fuck did you expect? Rabbits are NOT small little furry stuffed toys you can just take out of the closet or cage depending on your whim. They NEED a lot of free, open-air space to thrive well and hate enclosed spaces. It was better off dying now than enduring years that way. If you can't take care of a pet properly, don't get one in the first place.

you kept it in a pitch dark room? are you fucking retarded? it sounds like you've kidnapped someone

probably lost the will to live. pitch dark, only 10-20 minutes of free movement? that'd make anything goddamn depressed.

OP here

hahaha... oh.. ;_;

well, of course it doesnt sound right, but what im confused about is, it sounded like it was suffering when it was dying, i wouldnt think "darkness" would kill it.

rabbits have a lot of personality, in my experience

i had one that would run at full speed through my house, leap like three feet in the air, throw his head one way and his hind legs the other, kick and be a fucking crazy, then land and keep going

and he'd chase my cats

and pee at people when they pissed him off

Rob any creature of any stimulation and light, and it will die. Even humans do, which is why solitary confinement is the worse punishment that even the toughest inmates fear in prison.

Rabbits are social creatures, so they need interaction and companionship. The more you interact with bunnies, the more personality you'll see from them.

Exactly.

If you still have to listen to your mom don't take one. Wait till you don't have to listen to her, and maybe you won't be as fuckin stupid anymore to lock an animal into a dark room without any company.

You're a complete fucking retard OP. Never have children. Cos locking them in a pitch black room and making them emo is probably a bad thing

my mother hates pets, and I bought a rabbit against her will. it's been about a year and now the woman comes into my room every morning to feed her. she's not quite adjusted to my rabbit being friendly (she'll lick the shit out of any bodypart you shove at her, as long as you know, you give her head a good scratch)

anyway, op, you're a moron. atleast get a large playpen and put a fucking nightlight in there. feed it hourly. I feel sorry for responding to a troll, but yes, there are people who have well-living pets in their basement.

also, in b4 brown recluse bit your rabbit
>> Anonymous
its a fuckin rabbit. a furry little 40.00 rodent. JUST BUY ANOTHER ONE WHO FUCKING CARES? rabbits suck, they dont do anything. you shouldve gotten the dead body and salvaged the meat, no good in wasting good meat.
>> Anonymous
you know, no one has really explained the physiological reason why it really died. was the stress so unbearable that it had a heart attack?

I see ur still using the rodentria classification that's been outdated since the early 1900's.

They are actually part of the Lagomorpha clan.

OP-pet shops are one of the worst places to buy animals. Not only do you support the breeding mills, but often times you will get pets who are already ill.
If you cannot afford to take your pet to a vet (squealing should have been enough incentive)and you still live with your Mommy who hates pets, make DAMN sure you don't buy another one.

>>laid on its back with a constant high pitch squeal

I own three rabbits, and I can tell you this is a very bad thing. Rabbits rarely make any kind of noise, and almost never lay on their backs.

Also, how dumb are you to keep a living animal in a pitch dark room with absolutely no stimulation whatsoever? It's probably a good thing the poor rabbit died, rather than have you for an owner.
>> Anonymous
>>104236
If OP isn't a troll, then stress could in fact be the cause of death. Rabbits are pretty delicate, and can be stressed/scared to death. We have no idea if OP's bunny was getting proper food or if it was sick prior to going home with op.

But, seriously, OP HAS to be a troll.

Lagomorpha is an order, not a clan. Nitpicky detail, I know. Clan is not a recognized grouping.

Sounds like you mother found it it did not kill it in on swift blow and the n silently reveled in the fact the poor creature was screeching in agony.

OP here, i am not a troll.
this is a troll. picture related.

anyway, to further elaborate the story, of course i still live with my mom, until i get out of college, im not paying for my own house. fuck that. anyway, the bunny was originally bought for my 4 year old cousin, and it was kept in the basement temporarily until i would have given it to him.

i didnt take it to the vet because at the time i didnt have a car, and the bunny cost roughly 35 dollars, so i wasnt going to pay the vet more than i paid for it. My sisters owned two bunnies in the past, and kept it in the basement, which was pitch dark, and those bunnies survived for 3 years.

If it makes those feel better who were so very offended by my care taking of the damn thing, i buried it in the backyard lifting its stiff body and throwing it in a mound. I put a stick in front of it, i guess as a reminder or something. I dont even like bunnies, so I wont be buying another one. They are horrible little things, shitting everywhere they go, and they dont do anything.

The end.
>> Anonymous
>>104746

Correction. NEVER buy another pet in your life. I just took my hamster to the vet last week and it cost me $50, when I paid $20 for him. It's part of being a responsible owner. Also, I knew he would die of an upper respiratory infection if I didn't get him on antibiotics..

Also, I use the word clan a lot. That's my way of saying "group"

Way to litterbox train! Woo!
>> Anonymous
>>104746They are horrible little things, shitting everywhere they go, and they dont do anything.

I had a rabbit for quite a while. He lived outside and had the run of the backyard to himself, which we fenced off so he wouldn't get loose. He was trained to go to the bathroom in a box so he never shat anywhere. He did all sorts of stuff, running and hopping and exploring and sniffing at things, and he even learned his name and would come when we called him. He was very affectionate and liked to sit on laps.

When he died, it was from old age. He was 13.

tl,dr: Don't blame the bunny for your ignorance of how to take care of it. All the problems you bitched about could have been solved with a minimal amount of effort on your part. Kill yourself, KTHX.

Is probably close to being right. It probably ate something or got bit by something, it was in the dark, anything could have stuck/stung/bitten it, it could have eaten anything, it could have done something hazardous to it's own health because it was in the dark.

I actually like rabbits, I have a fake {because I know I probably can't dead with a real rabbit} Skelanimal rabbit named Bunnie {don't ask, long story.}

OP here,

now that u mention that, i do remember it gnawing on this wooden block that was put in the cage for teething. There were a few jagged splinters when i would check once in a while. maybe it ate the splinters.
>> Anonymous
>>104927

That wouldn't have killed it. They need wooden blocks to chew, that's something you actually did right. Rabbit teeth grow constantly through their entire life; they need to chew things to wear them down.
>> anonymous
obvously u didnt clean teh cage
>> Anonymous
>>104974
OP here

over ruled.

the cage was only used for a week. the amount of bedding that was put in the cage was enough to be cleaned when obvious visible waste was shown.
