oh my god. siberian huskeys are some of the greatest pets ever. they are very loyal and very smart.

we used to have one that could escape a 7 ft fence that had electricity running through it. we even put him in a kennel that was 10 feet tall and he still managed to escape. he would also for some reason kill beavers, deers, & chickens and leave them on our doorstep.

he even hated my father. we had so much in common

raising tips: cold to cool climates, feed them meat, beef is good make sure that its clean and preferably cooked to avoid parasites.

other than that plenty of room and shade and an active owner.

Escaping an enclosure != running away. :< If the husky stuck around then..

they are hard to housetrain
also they run away (it's their instinct) but everyone will give you compliments on how pretty your dog is. You cna teach them to say I love you.

Hmmm well. I would start with a flat plane, some rope, and a crane or pulley attached to a high and stable structure.
Make sure the board and rope can hold his weight, in fact I would create one or two rope fences around the board (assuming you are attaching rope to each corner) to make sure he doesn't fall or leap.

Has anyone ever owned a husky here, or is this just going on what you've heard or read about?

i owned a malamute. not sure how much different they are from huskies though.

big dog, took over a year to housetrain(even then he still had accidents once in a while), very loud, would run away at every chance given, took forever to leash train, would chase everything that moved, etc.
i only liked him when he'd just lay by my feet and chilled out.

like i said i owned a huskey and when he escaped at night he would always return in the morning which means he was loyal to everyone but my dad. and actually our huskey was very quite and well behaved except for the killing of my neighbors chickens

Well, I have a Malamute, which is also a sled dog . . .

They're smart, but not in a trainable way. Once your Husky has picked something up move to the next thing. Repeating just gets them board and they'll act up because they're not being entertained.

Also, they're a rather energetic dog. And yes, they are escape artists. (So are Malamutes.) They tend to be more hyper than their larger Malamute counterparts, but they're not as big so easier to control on a leash. Even when leash broken they WILL pull. They can't help it, just how they were bred.

Also, try to avoid a blue eyed husky. There's a chance they can go blind. 1 in every five go blind so . . . maybe one brown eye.

They're pretty dogs though.

If that's a husky I'll eat my hat. That's a Malamute pup.

You owned one and you don't know how to spell 'husky'?

Protip: Owning a dog doesn't make you smart.

My friend raised them and trained them as sled dogs. They're great but more wolf than any other breed. This means primitive and wild.
A cow's bone can evoke aggressive possessive behavior.
His male once felt abandoned because he was temporarily housed at a vet's place because he went nuts about a nearby female in heat. The dog chose to die. Although there was nothing physically wrong with it the animal elevated it's body temp until it passed.

Never forget the fuzzy dog is still a wolf.

I've known an couple of siberian huskies for years and I've never ever heard them bark. Stop blaming the breed.
