Sup /an/

A few weeks ago I posted that I got a betta fish and moved him to his own 10 gallon tank compared to that half gallon cube.

He's ended up being very happy in there. Got 20 lbs of gravel, 10 pounds of zebra rock, some bamboo and asian decorations in there. He's really active, swimming around.

Well, I had asked what else would be good with him and got some good sugguestions. So, recommended at the LFS and from here, his new tankmates are:

4 ghost shrimp
1 asian clam
1 3inch pleco

All of these things were recommended. Since then, this motherfucker has attacked everything in the tank and won't leave the pleco alone to the point he can eat. Does anyone have experience with keeping bettas in larger tanks with other fish? Will he calm down or will I eventually have to move him to his cube?

betta splendins is not really a community fish.this said, they can live with other species but this depends on the level of aggression in the particular male you have.try floating a jam jar with your betta inside.this will protect your other species.

Looks to me like you just have a really agressive individual there. Shame really, as the setup sounds lovely.

Though, get some pictures up!

Betta fish? More like BATTLEFISH!

Generally, a betta will leave a fish that is much larger it alone, but since your tank is only a 10 gallon, maybe you can just get a breeding cage and attach it to the side of the aquarium, and let him flop around in there. I had to do it with my chinese algae eater...

I kept my Betta in a community tank with Tetras for years and never had a single incident.

Because of the bamboo, I assume you went to PetCo.

First off, if you have live bamboo in your tank, it has to go. Bamboo is not truly aquatic and need to be at least half in the air. It will last a few months and then you will notice it's decomposing. It sucks because otherwise it looks really cool.

Second, most plecos are too large, or will get too large, for a 10 gal. They also end up making more mess then they clean up.

I was under the impression that inverts were not good with betta, but I'd do more research. If you really want tank mates, you can try otos. I don't have any, but they stay small and it seems to be a common betta tankmate in my fish forum. But if you betta is especially aggressive, he may be a loner.

Or with a ten gal, you can divide the tank in half and have two bettas.
