Afternoon, /an/. First time poster. Mind if I ask you for a bit of advice?

I have a tomcat and a beagle. Both are absolutely flea ridden. I've been using frontline and advantex with no results for close to a year now. The vet is no help, she just keeps telling me to buy the horrifically expensive medicine that isn't working in the slightest.

Also, for some reason, I can't find anyone who still does flea dips. Are they no longer permitted or something?!

I've just about had enough of fleas knowing at my ankles. Any advice, any at all, would be appreciated.

Flea collar.

And you probably aren't using the medicine correctly, because it has always worked perfectly for my pets.

Buy flea powder for your house and flea spray for outside. Flea shampoos from Petco, you can do it yourself. It'll kill the fleas on them.
Then buy the fucking medicine you cheapskate fuck. If you can't afford your animals, give them away or eat them.

flea shampoo to wash your pets

a flea collar

continue using the frontline according to instructions

if you have them bad in your house, get borax and spread it out in the corners of rooms and in your carpet, leave it for a day or so and vacuum it up. bug spray also works, like black flag.

Try BioSpot. Someone on another thread said that some fleas are becoming immune to Advantix and Frontline. But don't quote me.
They probably aren't just on your pets either. They're in your house, your couch, your carpet, yours and their beds. That's why the fuckers keep coming back.
Get a bottle of flea shampoo to delouse your pets. Call an exterminator or get a bunch of DIY bug bombs. Wash and suffocate all bedding in plastic bags. Get a pesticide for your lawn.

Even if they're not on your pets, they will still live in your carpet. Shampoo your carpets.

Anon - your animals probably aren't the infestation problem if you've been treating them for a year. Your house is infested. You need some serious infestation treatment, such as carpet powders, a bug bomb (do not leave your pets inside while that is occurring!), and some upholstery diazinon.

Check into some indoor pesticides and get rocking that infestation. Not all fleas live on animals at all - most live in the environment, feed once in a while, then hop off and have babies. Your pets are like fast food to them.

Capstar is a pill given to flea infested pets, and kills all fleas almost immediately, although I think you need to get that from your vet.
But your house is also probably infested, so take care of that first.

This man knows what he is talking about. And also since you do have a flea infestation your best bet is to get the house bombed by an exterminator then continue to use just frontline. It really doesnt make alot of sense to use both frontline and advantix since neither one has heartworm preventative. The vet clinic I work for reccomends frontline, it seems to do the job as long as your area remains pretty clean. So hate to break it to you but for the most part everything seems to be in your carpet, sheets, drapes, bedding everything. If an exterminator seems to be out of your range, vacuum really good everywhere, wash the bedding and try to bomb the house with some at home bombs that you can find at home depot.

Probably obvious, but please make sure that when you deflea your house, use a solution that's safe for cats. Dog flea powders, drops and shampoos are usually lethal to cats.
