Crab issues. Anonymous
Murr.. I'm having issues with my girl Hermit crab. Earlier today I found her curled up next to one of my new males, completely naked. So I put her in a box, with her shell. She wanted nothing to do with it. So I put the other shells in with her. Still had her nose out of joint about it. I went out for three hours (Traffic was really bad) and got her even MORE shells. So far she wants nothing to do with them.

I know shes not molting, and shes acting normal except that shes uhh naked. I even tried to put her back in her shell like some sites said to do, but she didn't like that either. My mom thinks she was just trying to get some but I really do not want little crabs running around. o_o;; So uh any ideas as to what I should do?

(Pic related although its not her.)

Uhm. wherever there are male and female there is always a chance. You'd be really fucking stupid to just assume they wont EVER mate if the mood should strike them. I highly doubt merely catching them makes them sterile.

f she was trying to mate and her being out of her shell was symptom, BABIES COULD HAVE BEEN YOUR PROBLEM.

Also, stfu yourself. You're on the board giving incorrect information about your own animals, for crying out loud. You tell us you have her with one of your new MALES, then when you're told to separate them, and you come in with "they are all females" like you won an argument?

Kids on my goddamned internet.

Actually there have never been any baby hermit crabs born in captivity. >_> and I didn't know they where female at the time. Thats what the lady told me at the store told me because of their claw size.. and upon further research I found out they were indeed females. so yes I lost the argument there. >_> Fucking /b/tards on my /an/.

>>100152
Don't you think I tried that? All they told me to do was force her back into her shell. Which she blatantly refused to allow. Seriously.. who the hell would use 4chan as anything but a last resort?

If being naked is bad for her health, which it must be or you wouldn't put up such a stink, eventually she'll crawl back into her shell.

If she does, cook her and take pix of you eating it.

Well, something's wrong, because whenever something's wrong, women seem to get the urge to undress for whatever moonreason they have.

keep shells around it.

keep an eye on the other crabs, make note if any are acting mean towards it.

does it stay in one place or move about. if it stays in one place, try and provide water.

without its shell, it will lose moisture rapidly and will have difficulty breathing

when i had hermit crabs many years ago, i rem once or twice the same thing happening. in a couple days it picked out a shell.

im no expert, but felt compelled to say something.

she's just picky. moar shells. the last one must have been real comfy and she's probably pissed fof that it doesnt fit. maybe she was trying to steal a shell from someone else.

One of my hermit crabs crawled out of his shell once, refused to get into it and died a couple of days later. Maybe keep an eye on it.

What do you do if a hermit crab comes out of its shell?
Hermit crab may leave its shell for many reasons - the important thing is to get the animal back in it. First, you must boil the empty shell and rinse it with cool water. Then, fill the clean shell with cool water. Finally, dip the naked crab in water and gently push it into the shell, abdomen first. You can threaten it in further by tapping lightly on its head so it will quickly draw back into its shell. If the hermit crab is lively, active, and simply running around nude to streak, this easy procedure should be all you need to do. But, if your land hermit crab has been lethargic, hanging around the water dish and hanging out of its shell until it eventually comes all the way free, more attention is required after you get it safely back into its shell. The hermit crab is probably suffering from a stress-related syndrome that affects its respiratory system much like hyperventilation. When these clinical signs occur please call us so we can try and find out why this has happened and if a treatment should follow. Sometimes mother nature has her own way of dealing with these things but sometimes we can prevent the worst from happening.

If it is an emergency please call me at 1-941-365-5753 between 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 A.M. Monday thru Friday and someone in the office will help you.

1. Use telephone in the morning.
2. Fix your crab.

The type of crab that you posted an image (looks like a caribbean to me) of are said to like shells with a circular opening VS an oval shape or other. Mine wouldn't switch shells for the longest time, until I added some assorted snail shells. They also prefer shells with a smooth interior/ or mother of pearl-like interior.

btw mine are considered medium-small in size, not sure how large the one in the pic is since there isnt anything next to it if you take another pic (if that one is yours) have it next to a dollar bill or something, and I might be able to help you find a shell type for it size.

hope that helps

I don't see the problem

It's out of it's shell, it's weakpoint is exposed. Now attack it for massive damage!

you should write "hi /an/" on her naked body to confirm that you're not just posting naked crab pictures you got off some random porn site.

I had a 25 year old crab who would do this frequently, for him it usual meant he wanted to take a bath but was too lazy to do it himself. I made sure the shell he had was clean and wasn't covered in mites (a usual reason they climb out) or smeared with shit and other bad stuff. Then I gave him a quick bath in lukewarm water, and sure enough he climbed back in all by himself.

Good crab he wasn, but he devoured all 13 of my other much smaller crabs one by one...
