Hello /an/,
I bought a Pomeranian puppy about a week ago and i've been having some problems. I've got an older dog who's always been nice to other animals/people, but he's being a complete dickhead to the new dog.

Everytime the puppy tries to initiate play or even goes near him he barks/yowls and tries to bite him. Sometimes when he sees the puppy walking by he'll move his head and kind of stare at him out of the corner of his eye, stiffening up in posture like he's ready to maul him.

Anyone know what I could do to remedy the relationship between them? Or is it just some sort of inital 'phase' when it comes to bringing a new dog in the house?

I don't think that sort of behavior will be any better unless you correct it. Sounds like the older dog is being territorial or trying to assert dominance. Show your dog that you are boss and that it's not OK to be mean to the little dog.

This may sound dumb, but the stuff on "The Dog Whisperer" actually works. Put your big dog in a submissive position (on it's back) next time he is aggressive towards the puppy and hold him there next to the puppy until he calms down and adopts a submissive mindset.

Repeatedly correct his bad behavior until he stops.

i had that problem for awhile.
what worked for me was taking them both to a place theyve never been before, like a dog park or something, and just letting em do whatever they want. older dog bit at the puppy for awhile, but puppy learned pretty fast to just not get in big dogs space.

they dont get along perfectly now, but they can at least be in the same area if puppy isnt too hyper.

No, don't do that. That's MEAN and you'll hurt the dog's feelings.

Thats ridiculous, if the dog is being a shit, stop him. The dog will think no less of you. Have you never owned one? When you have a dog, you are its leader and you set the rules. If you don't want a big dog to maul your little puppy, train it tolerate the puppies presence.

Christ, you've only have had the dog a week. Give them time.
Stopping them will only make the aggression last longer and may make it more severe. They're currently establishing pecking order. Eventually the puppy will get the idea and back off.
I have a pomeranian as well, my mom has a mean fuck Yorkie. He literally rips things apart. It took him no time to figure out going at Ben=pain. Unless your older dog is ripping into him, and I mean ripping into him as in causing bleeding (the puppy may yelp if the older dog startles him), then leave them be.
The putting him on his back is bad, it causes him to fear you. A much better form of punishment is shunning the dog for 24 hours. No eye contact, talking, acknowledging the dog. It drives them nuts, but god does it work. It asserts your dominant position.

Don't be too nice to the new puppy. Your old dog is higher-ranking than the puppy, so give your old dog more privileges than the puppy.
Also, stop your dog if he's trying to be mean to the puppy by saying "no" or whatever you say to your dog if he should stop doing something. Praise your dog if he's calm or ignores the puppy.

Hello /an/,
I am a Pomeranian puppy and I've been having some problems. There is an older dog who's suposibly always been nice to other animals/people, but he's being a complete dickhead to me.

Everytime I try to initiate play or even go near him he barks/yowls and tries to bite me. Sometimes when he sees me walking by he'll move his head and kind of stare at me out of the corner of his eye, stiffening up in posture like he's ready to maul me.

Anyone know what I could do to remedy the relationship between him and I? Or is it just some sort of inital 'phase' when it comes to being the new dog in the house?

Hello /an/,
My master just bought a Pomeranian puppy about a week ago and i've been having some problems. I'm a much older dog who's always been nice to other animals/people, but now I just want to be a complete dickhead to the new dog.

Everytime the puppy tries to initiate play or even goes near me I bark/yowl and try to bite him. Sometimes when I see the puppy walking by I'll move my head and kind of stare at him out of the corner of my eye, stiffening up in posture like I'm ready to maul him.

Anyone know what else I could do to scare the shit out of this dog. No worries this is just some sort of inital 'phase' when it comes to bringing a new dog in the house.

Hello /an/,
My neighbor bought a Pomeranian puppy about a week ago and he's been having some problems. He's got an older dog who's always been nice to other animals/people, but he's being a complete dick-head to the new dog.

Anyone know what he could do to remedy the relationship between them? Or is it just some sort of initial 'phase' when it comes to bringing a new dog in the house?

Hello /an/,
I'm thinking about buying a Pomeranian puppy about a week from now and i've been having some problems. I've got an older dog who's always been nice to other animals/people, but I'm afraid he'll be a complete dickhead to the new dog.

I fear that every time the puppy tries to initiate play or even goes near him he will bark/yowl and try to bite him. Or that sometimes when he sees the puppy walking by he'll move his head and kind of stare at him out of the corner of his eye, stiffening up in posture like he's ready to maul him.

Anyone know if I'm just paranoid? Or is it just some sort of common inital 'phase' when it comes to bringing a new dog in the house?

Hello /an/,
Some asshole has been thinking about buying a Pomeranian puppy about a week from now and I'm pretty sure that he will be having some problems. See, I've got an older dog who's always been nice to other animals/people, but, like most old dogs, he's always a dickhead to new animals.

I fear that every time that guy's new puppy tries to initiate play or even goes near him he the old dog will bark/yowl and try to bite him. Or that sometimes when his old dog sees the puppy walking by he'll move his head and kind of stare at him out of the corner of his eye, stiffening up in posture like he's ready to maul him.

Anyone know if I'm just paranoid? Am I mistaken that this is just some sort of common inital 'phase' when it comes to bringing a new dog in the house?

Anyone know if he's just paranoid? Or is it just some sort of common inital 'phase' when my mom got scared, she said "You're movin' with your auntie and uncle in bel Air." I whistled for a cab, and when it came near, The license plate said "fresh" and it had dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, But I thought "Nah forget it, Yo home to Bel Air." I pulled up to the house about seven or eight, and I yelled to the cabby "Yo holmes, smell ya later." Looked at my kingdom, I was finally there, To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel Air. .

See, the older dog obviously sees that abomination and hates Pomeranians like any sane creature should.

Establish yourself as the Alpha to your older dog. Establish eye contact when he tries that behavior, make yourself, "large" and firmly say, "NO!" or "Bad dog!" If thats not enough, and you feel its safe to do so, grab him, look him in the eye, and make him believe you are in charge.

I hardly think sticking an enlarged, erect penis in his dogs eye will help the situation.

...by "large" I meant in overall body size. The bigger you appear to be to a dog, the more it respects or fears you.

how has half the internet not swept down into this thread to correct this yet

LOL, yeah, right. Size had nothing to do with how much a dog respects you. Almost any sidewalk shark (small dog) will walk right up to any large breed dog or even a person it doesn't like and bark or snarl threateningly. Dogs have no concept of size when it comes to other dogs or humans.

like seriously, the older dog wont be asserting dominance when its trying to stop his anus from bleeding.
