Hey /an/,

I work in a pet store and it just shits me when I see fucktards just walking in to awwwwww at puppies and kittens etc without taking into consideration the amount of work that needs to be put in to raising it; food, worming, shelter, money time etc

Does this piss anyone else off?

as a matter of fact it makes me rage.
but a lot of pet store owners aren't worth a shit either.
i was making a point of this concerning the sales of baby turtles, if your serious about keeping one for the long run you'll need to be spending hundreds of dollars.
most pet shops sell these little plastic bowls with a palm tree, when infact you should get minimum 40 gallons.

people in cities by big fucking dogs that end up being left in cramped apparments all day while they work, and then the owner freaks out when they come back and everything ripped to shit and pissed on.

what makes me rage even more is that all these people that can't even take care of animals usually end up having kids...

Only slightly. Puppies and kittens are adorable so I wouldn't condescend someone because they think that the animal is cute, they might know a lot about how to raise a pet.

it should be up to the pet store owner to explain just what the fuck it takes to care for the animal they are going to be purchasing.

If you were born in the 80s or earlier, there's a pretty good chance that your parents knew jack shit about raising children until after they'd had a few kids and got the hang of it. In fact, if you were born in the 80s there's a really good chance that you were concieved when your father was high on crack and while he was fucking your mom in the ass his dick slipped out and he accidentally put it back in the wrong hole. But we turned out ok, right? RIGHT?

What pisses me off is people who buy designer dogs like 'cockapoos', and 'goldendoodles' for $1900 from pet stores who get their dogs from puppy mills, and what these people don't realize is that they just wasted thousands of dollars on a MUTT they could have adopted from an animal shelter.

I love to go into pet stores just to look at the animals, thats not to say I don't know how to care for them. There aren't many pet stores around here that sell cats and dogs, mostly because people rarely buy them from pet stores and go to either a breeder, the pound, or get them for free from a random house who don't know how to spay their dogs.

I find it cruel to sell cats and dogs in pet stores. They need a lot more room and attention than the smaller animals they sell.

I'm not OP, but I also work in a pet store. While I agree with you about selling dogs, we sell kittens at my store and I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

We take them in from various places (one lady brought in a litter she found in a dumpster) and then take them to the vet and sell them for not much more than the vet bills. They mostly get to run around the store all day, and spend nights in a large cat cage.

I also know for sure that if any of the employees at my work felt that a person wouldn't take care of a cat to the fullest extent, we would refuse to sell it to them.

Then explain it to them, faggot.

Just because people come in to d'awww at the animals doesn't mean they are going to get one. It's just something fun to do.

We only got purebreds 'cause my dad is extremely allergic to regular dog fur. As much as I love my dogs, poodles and malteses were not my first choice.

I walk into pet stores just to awwwwwww at the animals, and I have two dogs, a cat and two fish tanks. D:

You're right, though. Most people that awwwwww have no idea what they're in for.

What is wrong with looking at animals?

I bet you're one of those faggots that believe zoos should be illegal.

OP, how would I go about getting a job for a pet store?

It's one of those giant chain stores, but I'd rather work there than my shitty current place of employment. I'm going insane where I work now, so I need to do something becuase school, and work will probably push me over the edge.

Just go apply? I worked at a Petsmart and my only previous experience was owning pets at home. They give you all the training if you work directly with the animals. Not so much if you're a cashier or whatever. I went in with minimal knowledge and came out really well versed in pet care, though.

omfg that makes me rage so hard >:0!!

They're paying for the lack of shedding and less allergic fur, and also because out of any poodle crossbreed litter, only about 2 or 3 have the coat that meets the requirement, retard. Are you about to tell me mutts from the shelter now are all poodle crossbreeds?

Im telling you that being allergic to dogs is God's way of punishing you for being a pussy.

OP here,

Surprised this thread is still around.

Many things. Such as faggots going "awwwww it's so cute, I want to take it home awwwww" etc While only thinking about their short-term gratification when they have their cute puppy, all the while completely ignorant to the truth of pet ownership.
People like that are the reason I place little value in humanity, why I do not tolerate the foolish and ignorant, and why I believe in population control.

I'm not one of those people that believe zoos should be illegal. Unfortunately due to the virus-like spread of humanity they are necessary to protect animals that are at risk of becoming extinct. They do good work, even though in a perfect world it wouldn't be needed.

I'm from Australia, work at a place called Pets At Home (they're a British company who are expanding to new markets). Just apply like you would to any other shitty retail job. They like if you have previous pet ownership and work experience, so they have to teach you less and so you can give better advice to customers.

Mention in the interview that you have pets, and that you love animals etc But don't come across like some of the fucktards on /an/; just a normal guy/girl who happens to have an interest in animals and a passion for pets and good customer service.

Hope that helped you out.

Cheers,

Pet-store fag here. Same thoughts with dogs here, but usually we don't have dogs more than a few days so we feel bad about having them in the kennel for a bit but it's not TOO bad. And as often as possible we'll let the larger more energetic breeds run around the store before we open. Which isn't much but it's something. We'd all love for them to have a place to run around and everything but unfortunately it's not an option. Also, I like playing with the puppies in the mornings. Holy fuck they're cute, it makes my head want to explode.

You just apply and show that you know the basics. They're supposed to train you but the petstore I worked at did shit to actually make sure their employees learned anything. It's not a fun job unless you're a flaming optimist - you deal with mass breeders, sick animals, half-eaten hamsters, and the smell of dead fish and rotting water plants.

I used to rage at people who came to d'aww, but then I realized most people don't actually get them and a lot that do already know about caring for cats or dogs (its the people who get hamsters for their kids that are idiots).

I like to occasionally d'aww now that I don't work in the pet industry anymore.
