Hedgehogs? Anonymous
This is got to be the cutest thing with feet. How do I go about obtaining one of these and how do I take care of it? Also, more pics!

They can be nice but the spikes on it make you itch. Like, if you just touch it and get poked it itches like crazy. Weird

the hog has not been hot since mortal kombat 1

I just want to take one of these into my home, set it at the table, and serve it pancakes.

I heard that cow milk is deadly for them.

some years ago i picked up tiny hedhoges, that were too small to survive hibernation, and kept them until spring. they were cute as hell, oh those tiny little feet, wiggly noses and big eyes. but they smelled so bad, it was impossible to keep them indoors. they need a special diet (special hedgehog food [pet shop], worms aso, but never milk) and good medical care (wild ones often have parasites and illnesses). and its rather easy to get them somewhat tame, but taming them is stupid if you are going to release them....

I'm sure there are breeders somewhere nearby to you, but the exotics trade is a fucking shitshow and I wouldn't support it.

Obviously, if you really want one you'll go buy it anyways. So I don't know why I bother.

Since when are hedgehogs a big deal? My high school had a pair. It wasn't even a good school.

Do you like nocturnal animals that will run in a wheel all night long? Do you like animals that aren't necessarily going to want to interact with you much at all? Do you like animals who "go on the go" (shit as they walk/run)? Do you mind cleaning a cage a minimum of once per week and feeding mealworms?

If so, a hedgehog may be for you!

Bottom line, they're ridiculously cute, but they really do shit everywhere (shitting on exercise wheels, resulting in shit flying up and onto them isn't that rare an occurrence). They sleep all day long, and fuss if you wake them up during the day (a weird stuffy nosed huffing sort of wheeze noise). They're also not particularly cuddly or pettable. I knew some hogs who were very active and enjoyed some human interaction, and I knew some hogs who wanted absolutely nothing to do with people.

Never, ever feed hedgehogs milk. It makes them blarggh ded. Also they don't make good pets due to reasons listed above and being an undomesticated critter. Take a guinea pig, bunny, gerbil or something else if you want something small and cute.

I wonder if I should tell you that hedgehogs always carry a shitload of fleas and lice and other itchy parasites between their spikes.. Nah.

They are cute but they make terrible pets

When I was 8 I tried to 'adopt' a hedgehog that was hibernating in our garden. I dragged it to my room, only to find out 10 minutes later it was covered in ticks and fleas!

I'm still afraid of ticks to this day....

Like most other animals, they're lactose intolerant.

You can give them the expensive milk sold for pet cats if you just have to give them milk. Same goes for rabbits and... cats.

Okay britfags, the wild hedgehogs you're trying to adopt aren't the kind that people keep as pets. The domestic variety is originally from africa.

I mean christ, if you go out and catch a stray cat I'm sure it's going to be a flea-covered terror, too.
