Sick hamster Anonymous
Dear /an/,

I bought a hamster about a week ago, he looked healthy when I first got him but he got sick out of nowhere today.

His butt is wet-looking and he's shitting (or maybe puking) out putrid smelling globs of green, which are most likely from the green pellets things in his food. I've fed previous hamsters the same kind of food and they've never had problems.

What's wrong with him and what can I do to help?

has aids, feed to nearest snake

You can take him to the vet, genius.

Change his diet, take out the green pellets. A food that works for one animal is not always going to work for the other. Look up and see if it can have any fruits or veggies, give it some of those. And if the problem does not change after that.. feed it to a snake.

I'm pretty sure that's called 'Wet Tail'. There's stuff you can put in it's water to heal it.Head to your local pet store and check it out.

your fault for getting a fucking hamster in the first place

It's wet tail.

There are medications to treat the symptoms, but nothing really 'cures' it, and 90% of the time it's a death sentence.

Did you do anything to change its diet? Is it possible the hamster got wet somehow (leaky waterbottle maybe)? Did you give it a couple days alone (no interaction) to avoid stressing it? Sickness, cold, and stress cause wet tail, it could be any number of things.

Try to keep it hydrated and get a medication called 'dry tail' at a pet store-- or better yet, go to a vet.

Above posters are correct, it is wet-tail. Get your hamster to a vet ASAP. Sounds like it's pretty advanced if the hamster is already smelling bad and his rear is wet. I've treated hundreds of hamsters with wet-tail (not even exaggerating) and your actions now will decide if the hamster lives or dies.

Here's what I was taught about wet-tail:
All hamsters have it living in their digestive tracts. As>>138235stated, there are a number of things that can aggravate it. Compare it to a very young child vomiting too much - they dehydrate.

I know he might be hard to handle but see if you can get him to drink, even if you must use a syringe and force it. Keep him hydrated until you can get him to a vet! If you will not take him to a vet, either return him to the pet store you got him from (depending on the store, that is.. I know at Petsmart, for example, you have a 14 day guarantee and when we got hamsters with WT we'd treat them and give them back, if the owner wanted) or pick up a medication like Dri-Tail. That's the most common, there's another one though that's a series of pills you put in the water.. however, if your hamster will not drink from its bottle this will obviously not work. Most of the time I treated hamsters with WT, we HAD to force feed them the medicine. I think Dri-Tail comes with an eyedropper to administer it.

Srs though, google wet tail. VERY serious and a notorious hamster killer. GL, OP.

OP here, is it bad for the snake's health if I feed him the hamster?

Hamsters are good for nothing else. Dunno if it's a good idea to feed him a sick hamster though. If you do feed it to the snake, please kill said hamster first though, as painlessly as possible, because it will bite the fuck out of your snake.

Being that your hamster is sick, yes.
It is bad for the snake's health.

No its not bad for the snake because it cannot catch the disease since as a few posts up posted ALL HAMSTERS HAVE IT IN THEIR SYSTEMS, so no your snake will not get hurt, you dont have to kill the hamster just put it in a back and whack it on the curb, it should stun it , then feed it to the snake/

Your hamster has wet tail. Go to the pet store that you bought him from and get dritail. Seei f the store has a warranty - if it's gotten this bad already, he might die. Don't feed him only seed - feed him blovk diet and oatmeal until it resides.
