Get their mother please.

Although I hatched these ooths, I don't own the mother. They're eBay babies.

Then I'll do my part.
Hierodula eating stick insect (that greedy thing ate the whole stick).

Wow, awesome. Was the stick insect a pet before the mantis got it? Mine are Sinensis.

Oh man, these are my first mantises and I was shocked at how much they ate! This little L2 downed the whole fly a while ago and I remember being so amazed. lol.

Ahh, you just confused me....I prefer starting with the genus name, so yours is a Tenodera.
The stick insect was a pet, a Carausius morosus and I fed it to her because I've got too much of them, they can be a pest for sure.

Scary: Legs and body still moved after half of it (incl. head) was eaten.

Lol, I'm sorry. I should've said Tenodera s., yeah?

Anyway, that sucks. I hear they, the stick insects, reproduce asexually? That's gotta be a nightmare after a while.

I remember a mantis we kept at work when I was stationed in Korea. It's name was Kembo. Had a kill count of 14 spiders, 17 other mantises, and 1 frog. All within about a month or so.

Tenodera aridifolia sinensis, but Tenodera ist just okay, because there's only this one species kept as a pet :P

It becomes a pain for sure, because they don't only reproduce asexually, they also grow and hatch very fast..I'm thinking about getting rid of them, because they're too much work. @pic

Would they eat each other when they are not fucking?
Would they eat each other even if there are a lot of food?

Ew, that sucks. And here I was thinking about getting one.

>>249788
Haha.. yes. Yes they do. I've lost only 2 to cannibalism so far. I'm down to 12. I have six and six in two tanks, and I just feed the shit out of them and they're ok. Occasionally I might get nervous and chase one away from the other if he's looking pouncey and I notice. I think I lost those two because I didn't feed them one evening and they had to wait until the afternoon to be fed the next day.

And if you leave then with a lot of insects (like crickets)

Will they kill all intil over? Can you overfeed them? (I already did it to a house spider and it's ass became huge)
>> Anonymous
>>250123

Normally, not with a lot of crickets because they are actually predators and have the capacity to gang up on a mantis and kill it, believe it or not. So I'm cautious about them. Fruit flies, though, yes, I do populate the tank once in the morning and if they seem to have eaten them all, I'll offer a few crickets and hawk over the tank for a while until they're all captured.

>Will they kill all intil over?

I have no idea what you're trying to ask. D:

You can feed them until they look overfed and busting at the seams and their abdomen is all swollen, but no, they will drop their food when they're feeling full. I sometimes find half eaten crickets or house flies in the tanks, which is actually good, because I know they're full enough to not eat each other. lol.

if crickets may become dangerous how about grasshoppers?
>> Anonymous

>>250150

That's a really good question, I have no idea! Grasshoppers eat plants, so I wouldn't think they'd out right attack a mantis like a cricket might, but I bet a grasshopper could do some serious damage to a smaller mantis in self defense. Then again, so can wasps and bees, and mantises eat those too, so I guess it all depends on how big/hungry the mantis is.

>>250123

Oh yeah, I forgot to say, uber feeding leads to faster molts and big mantises, like the spider! My mantises are molting about every week so far.

grasshoppers are not strict vegetarian.
They can pose a danger to insects.

Oh cool, now I know. :D

>>250158

Be careful with overfeeding, especially when your mantis is kept at low temperatures. The digesting system of some species doesn't work fast enough to digest everything in the given amount of time, so the abdomen of your mantis may rot as a result.

>>250187
No low temperatures here, I live in a goddamn desert. Lol. It's a constant 80F in my room, higher if the computer is on. Don't worry, I got humidity covered, although it's a pain in the ass.

I hope you're joking. lol.

Moar like this.

Maybe you could feed them aphids.
They are harmless, reproduce like crazy (use a nitrogen fertilizer in your plant, use the artificial ones, they will make the plant big and weak)

But I don't know if the high sugar will harm them.
