I don't think the first frog shown is either a "Pacman" frog or a "Budgett's Frog". It appears bigger than either.

I'm not sure what it is, but it's cool! :)

it's not a pacman definitely, but I'm fairly certain it's a budgetts.

Yeah, I think it is a Budgett's - but much larger than any I've seen photos of. A large Budgett is 5" - that sucker looks to be 7"-8" long at least. Coloration is a bit different too.

Copypasta'd a photo of a Budgett's frog eating an American Bullfrog that's almost as big.

How can it even digest that?

>How can it even digest that?

Dunno - at the site where I found that photo, the OP said it took the Budgett's Frog two attempts and about an hour to subdue/swallow the bullfrog.

These frogs do have a vicious bite and they'll eat anything - even 2" diameter rocks! Here is another copypasta'd photo of a man's finger after getting bitten while feeding his Budgett

Jeez. I've never owned any frogs...I didn't know they could bite that hard. I've been bitten by a run-of-the-mill leopard frog when I was a kid, but it didn't really hurt 0.o

If you're going to handle a budgett's, some owners apparently recommend kevlar gloves ala the type worn to fillet fish. I copypasta'd yet another photo showing the two large, sharp teeth/fangs on the lower jaw of the Budgett.

I've always wanted a pet frog.
I've always liked Pacman frogs, and Tomato frogs (are the latter even available as pets?). After seeing this thread, I might even like a Budgett.

Can I hear opinions as to what to get? Pros/cons etc?
>> Anonymous
>>198707
I worked at a pet store that sold Tomato frogs, so they're definitely out there. We only had them one time, though, and didn't sell them until a woman called up looking for tomato frogs specifically. You might have to ask the management to order them for you (but I wouldn't do it if it cost extra, they should do it for free).

I have a pacman and he is just made of win. Pretty easy to take care of...

10gallon tank
suitable substrate (fir and sphagnum moss mix, sphnagum moss, beaked moss, anything it can burrow in, see pacman frog care on google)
heat source
water dish

mist em daily, feed em, make sure it's warm and humid.... theyre so fun. Get one.

I never had any interest in owning a frog until reading this topic. I've been doing a lot of reading about frogs - the Budgett's typically isn't recommended for novice owners. Also, with a Budgett's frog, it's best to buy frogs that are born domestically, vs wild-caught frogs. However, it's much easier to buy a wild-caught Budgett than a Budgett reared by a breeder.

The Pacman is quite a bit easier to care for, and they're easier to find. I called a number of local petshops yesterday - none of them had, or could get, a Budgett's. However, several did have Pacman frogs available.
