Hey, are there any of you bird nuts out there that can help me?
I'm house sitting for a friend, and he has a quaker parrot. This is day 3, and so far we've been getting along just fine, she loves to perch on my shoulder and seemed to like me... until this morning.
She climbed up on my head and started grooming me, so I took it as a sign to shower.
Well after my shower she got MEAN! She started biting me hard (broke the skin twice) And then started ripping out my arm hair and EATING IT! Now I change her water twice a day and gave her fresh food this morning
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

She's telling you to knock it off with that cheap ass shampoo.

I'd also say that she may not liked the smell of what you used, but then again I don't think parrots have a good sense of smell.

Is there any way I can make her nice again?

She might miss her real owner, thus acting hostile now.... I suggest you do nothing. Just remember to close the windows etc. and feed and give her fresh water everyday.

birds sometime randomly get moody... and seeing being groomed as a sign you need a show is stupid btw... you shouldn't need a fuckin' quaker to tell you you smell.

ANYWAY. just wait it out, give her some space if you need too. like i said, parrots can get pretty moody and sometime they just may want you to GTFO. pay attention to her and don't get angry or upset, she'll only mimick your emotions

Well shes on my head grooming it again...don;t know if thats good or bad, but I'm hopeful... and i think she just crapped on me...again

My quaker loves to nibble my skin but she'll go overboard and rip it off then I have to watch her eat it because apparently I taste great. Quakers are very territorial and like another Anon said, birds can get pretty moody for seemingly no reason.

If you really need to handle her and you know it's okay with the owner, you could try toweling her gently. It calms some parrots down and it's fun making bird buttiros.

birds are funny like that

Pet her behind the neck if you can. Or on the forehead.

Birds like to pick at their owners and eat their skin. They think its "excess skin" like when new feathers get in and you see the flakey white break-in. Nothing you can do about that. And yeah she probably misses her owner.

It looks just like my quaker. Why do they all have to look the same? ;_; I miss my quaker.
