Seconded.

Hamsters are a huge mistake of the pet industry. They bite, they don't like to be bothered. Yes, there's exceptions to the rule, but overall, they are just not pets, unless your idea of pet is an animal that you should only watch and not touch.

Mice are extremely fucking smelly and not as smart as rats, but they can be neat if you raise them from babies.

For rodents smaller than rats, I would recommend a pack of gerbils. Fun to watch and not bitey.

Oh wow, unless you're buying your hamster from some backyard breeder or something, you're completely wrong. Every hamster i've bought from any major petstore chain has been friendly and handled previously. Of course you may get bitten a few times while the hamster is getting used to you- otherwise, unless you're either a complete dumbfuck or rough with it, they shouldn't bite.

Every hamster I've ever had has wanted to kill me as soon as I took it out of the pet store.

People always tell me this is very strange.

Yeah every hamster I've ever delt with has had a heart attack when you tried to play with it and they're up all night.
Get a rat.

Samefag.

Also, PROTIP: Hamsters are naturally nocturnal.

I had a hamster for 5 years that only nipped me twice, after I'd just gotten it. Some of them are a bit nippy, but they're generally good-natured so long as you LEAVE THEM THE FUCK ALONE AND LET THEM SLEEP DURING THE DAY.

I'd rather get a rat but I'm not sure I have the space for it....

if i did get a rat what kind would be recommended

oh and if i got a mouse it would be a baby

get a mouse. they are fun and actually move than just sitting there freaking out. i used to have a hamster and all it did was sleep. and if you get a rat, get it when its young that way you when you get it it really doesn't try to kill you.

Mouse, definatley!

Hamsters are nippy little bastards, and they don't do much! Mice are a lot more active and a lot more intelligent than hamsters are.
