Sup, /an/?

Guess what? I've got a crayfish. Cherax Quadricarinatus to be exact. I think that these are called "red clawed lobsters" in some parts of the world.

And you know what? I've never had any "underwater creatures", not even fish. Still this guy is so fuckin' awesome I can't find enough words to describe him.

He's still young, but just the other night he ran from his aquarium. I wake up in the morning and the first thing I see is a crayfish at my bed. So either he wanted to hug me, which is cute - or wanted to kill me, which is pretty fuckin' awesome!

No seriously, though. The fucker easily opened the water-glass cover. Now I'm wondering how to protect it better. I don't want him to suffocate on land.

Have a good day!

put some weight on the cover

Well, I've thought about a book or something, but that will look stupid. The aqurium cover is made of plastic, so maybe I could just buy another one made of glass. But then again, I don't think that I'd be able to mount light on a glass lid...

get a plastic or wood cover with lights in it.

Steam your lobster.

Or put a steamed lobster on the cover. Maybe it'll scare him enough so he won't touch it.

I've got a glass lid for my tank and the light sits right on top of it. I really like the way it fits. Basically, it's two sections of glass plus about four inches of plastic at the back. Lets you cut out your own holes for filters/wires/etc.

Now, I've never had a crayfish or similar escape artist type resident in any of my tanks, but I'd imagine that's what you'd want to go for. Something that sealed up really really well.

At the very least, you could go to your local pet shop and see whats available, get an idea of what you could get to keep your pinchy friend in his tank.

Give it some hiding places inside the tank, that'll give it some distractions.

get a screen lid and put some clips on it
