Please help me /an/. I have a robin that repeatedly flies himself into my window for about 5-15 minute durations, leaves for a few hours, and comes back. He generally starts bright and early, well early enough to disturb my sleep since I work second-shift. I don't know what the hell is wrong with him. There's a screen behind the window and curtains behind that, he shouldn't be trying to get through. But I wake up to a loud. *BANG!* *BANG!* *BANG!*

I don't live out in the sticks so I can't just shoot the little fucker, plus I don't want to put a hole in the side of my house/window. I've tried putting up a stuffed owl, he just ignores it. I'm tempted to string up some piano wire in front of the window and see if he hits it hard enough to take his head off.

High, vaulted ceilings, let's not try this approach.

He is attacking his reflection. Putting things as a deterrent on the inside of the glass is not removing the reflection. Try cutting a large piece of cardboard to fit (try unfolding a cereal box) and taping it to the outside of the window.

oh....well yea, that could be a bit of a pain

hmmmm

honestly, i would try waiting for it to start, open the window, and smash the little guy with a frying pan or a bat, like a baseball, not hard enough to kill it, but enough to scare it off, but with the ceilings it might be a prob if you miss...so never mind on that...

have you tried loud noises?

Like a siren, blasting from a stero?

I've found that most birds around here, don't come back very often if you blast loud noises at them.

He's flying up and hitting the window two-thirds of the way to the top. It's not his reflection.

I've tried scaring him off, he flies away very quickly, but comes back no matter what I do.

I think he's just fucking retarded.

Maybe its his reflection at the top of the window? Why not give it a try? You will only be out a cereal box and some tape, seriously its not that big of a loss, and it might work.

Do I really want to have a boardboard box taped to my nice attractive bay window? No.

I have this same fucking problem with an oriole... or something.

Stupid little bastard makes me laugh every time he hits the glass.

so wait a min, your not willing to put something up that might work and stop the annoying bird, just cause it may look bad?

I'm not going to have my window look like shit, I can live with the bird, its not that big a deal.

Then why are you whingeing about it on /an/ again?

Temporarily tape some tacks or nails to the window and let it impale itself.

Go outside when he starts bashing into your window and see if you can catch him. Lock him in a small box, take him up a mountain or to some other remote place covered in trees, and throw him in the exact opposite direction of your house. If he manages to fly all the way back to your window, catch him again and get a cat on the case.

worthless post, thanks

Hang some spare CDs in your window. The weird colours might put him off.

If not, well, natural selection.

It is confusing the light reflected form window glasses with natural surroundings. You need to find a way to cover the glass on your window. Nothing else will work.

Easy fix. Get a poster. Any poster of a human being is best. Stick it up on the inside of your window. Bird will not be back.
