Hey /an/, could you help me make a decision?

There's this cat that I feed at my window, but is too feral to take in. He's not aggressive, but despite meowing for food he's terrified of people, and I can't even pet him.

Yesterday, I looked out my window to find his right eye was crusted shut with puss. He can still open and see out of it, but it's oozing with puss. I would try to catch and treat him, but I'm afraid he would infect my cat.

Should I take him to the local no-kill shelter?

to put it into further perspective: you are intervening and making the world a little better. at least the world in your immediate vicinity. it may not be much, it may not matter to other people either. but it matters to you. it will matter to the cat. and it will matter to the others who interact with you in order to take in and care for the animal (assuming the No-kill shelter option is pursued).

The cat's lonely. It's hungry. It's constantly aware of being hurt and focusing on survival. It sees one human that seems different, but it could be another human that just pretends in order to get close to it and hurt it terribly. Even worse, it can't even really see that human because something is hurting it's eye. It's cold, it's lonely, and it has up to this point led a solitary and unenviable existence.

should you choose to intervene you may not have any reward. shit, you may have to pay for the vet fees or road trip fees if the local no-kill can't/won't take the kitty in. the thing that I think matters to you is your decision in making a difference in a creature's life.

you can't guarantee it will live on properly, but you can guarantee you will not look back and think "that was a mistake; I should have done something."

lastly, don't half ass it. if you decide "dammit, this mother-fucker is going to get the best fucking thing happen to him by ME coming into it's life" and "shit, fucker's gonna think he's gonna DIE after I trap him in order to take him to a better place, but he'll find a good home because of me" then fucking do it.

if you go "fuck it, I'm a lazy ass" then know and accept "you, little fucker, are going to die; or at least go blind in one eye" and fucking move on.

As much as I would love to tell you to catch the cat and take it to a shelter for treatment, I don't think that you should. A cat that afraid of humans - even one who's been feeding it for (I'm assuming) a good amount of time - is probably not going to find a loving home and will just tax the shelter's resources.

This is an animal board, go back to /b/.

OP, if I were you, I would honestly try to catch it and take it to a shelter or something. Then again, I have a heavy heart and I would regret it terribly if I did nothing so even if things don't work out, do what you can.

I would be careful though, you have to remember that it's a stray and if you try to catch it it could scratch or bite you and then YOU'RE the one whose fucked.

Good luck though.

By the way, no kill shelters are a lie. If it truly is no kill it'll refuse the cat, because the cat is not adoptable and they will not want to keep it forever. If they do take the cat in, then it is a kill shelter and will eventually put the cat down because they won't be able to adopt it out. I've worked/volunteered at shelters for years and despite what you think and they tell you this is the truth of the matter.

For feral cats, they've adopted a spay/neuter, then release policy.

Reminds me of PETA.

Are you in the background.. and without clothing because if so I advise the cat to go somewhere else immediately

1) Obtain cat trap
2) Put deelishus foodz in said trap
3) Watch a movie
4) Take alley cat to vet

Well I'd have to watch it because there are several other strays in the neighborhood.

get a friend to help and wear thick gardening gloves to catch and hold said cat as he is likely to squirm and try to scratch.
when you've caught cat have a friend ready with a water spray bottle, in the bottle have water with a bit of eyewash mixed in.
spray cats eye best you can and release cat into natural habitat.

thats all the shelter would have done anyway and you can release him back where he lives rather than have him languish in a cage the rest of his life, if eye is still as bad after a day or 2 repeat.

That's if you want to treet it anyway, if it is a stray it is probably less traumatic for the cat to let nature take it's course, it is probably just an injury from a fight with another cat and will heal fine in time.

Would hydrogen peroxide hurt a cat's eye?

Um, would it hurt YOUR eye?

I... don't know? I use it for cuts and mouth ulcers. It doesn't sting but I know it's not supposed to be swallowed. I guess it could leave the eye dry.

Should probably find out if you use anything other than water.

lulz

faggot op needs doesn't seem to know that there is anything on the internet besides 4chan

OP here.

I squirted his eye with hydrogen peroxide, then washed it out with water. After that initial treatment, I cleansed his eye with a cleansing agent I bought at Petsmart.

He now hates me -though he still cautiously begs for food- but he's also made a complete recovery. It's good to see his eye wide open again, where a week ago it was sealed shut with puss.

See, the thing is, my laptop is being repaired and I'm stuck on a PSP for the moment. Registering for a forum is difficult on this extremely limited browser.

Google just tells me the many diseases it could be, and other people's problems. I wanted opinions on my situation.

He doesnt hate you. He's just afraid youre going to grabs him again and spray his eye with peroxide.

Well good for you, man.

The cat will warm up to you again in a while. You just have to get his trust back.

I couldn't. I don't know what's happened to him in the past, but the mere sight of my cat carrier sent him running. The one time I managed to get him with both hands he wriggled out in a frantic panic, leaving my hands covered in fur. I could only hold him a few seconds each time.

So, I was patient, and lured him with tuna and deli meat, then depending on the liquid, dripped or squeezed it onto his eye.

It is supposed to mean "Quoted For Truth". In this case, however, it was used improperly. Not only did>>201304not actually quote anything, but what he attempted to quote was not true. So I guess it stands for "unQuoted For unTruthitude" or something.
