African Grey Parrot Atomic !eB5C4Rw5bU
I've been doing research on these guys for a while, and I've not quite been able to get a solid answer on one thing. (I mean that in the sense that i can find either answer online in various places.) If anyone has one, would they be willing to share how loud it is? Too loud for keeping in an apartment? Varies by the bird? Depends on the walls? Anything would help.

Loud enough that you will hear it for the next 80 years.

Given that it will live for 80 years in theory, i would expect no less.

Birds don't only talk, they whistle and chatter a lot. Parrots just aren't good neighbors.

They get pretty loud. And if you keep the cage against a wall, they'll knock on it. My parents have one and he screams sometimes or makes the sound of a fire alarm going off that you can hear from anywhere in the house, but other than that he makes telephone sounds and laughs and says some sentences and whistles all the time.

Many thanks>>217104and>>217095, those answers really help, and confirm what i was afraid of. (Unlike many posters inquiring about unsuitable pets, i'm actually not going to get a parrot still just because i feel like it)

I think budgies are the quietest parrot you can get, but they're stupid. Cockatoos are the loudest parrot, I think. Even Lovebirds and Parakeets get pretty loud, I have a pair of Rainbow Lories and they scream the house down when they're lonely.

Oh, he died? That's too bad...I didn't know. ;_;

Yeah, alex died unexpectedly in 2007, as i recall.

Do you mean to say that these birds are loud if left alone, but quiet if given proper attention on a daily basis?
>> menchi !IgWlr3a0sk
nah not that loud.
I had mine in a room I rented in a townhouse and she was just fine.

You might want to go for the 30 Watt model. It's just about loud enough to practice with a drummer but you'll have to get him to play quiet. You can always get a more efficient speaker, or mic your parrot up to the PA.

lol, wut? all the budgies I've seen NEVER SHUT UP EVER. If they're awake, they're making noise. It's crazy.

I would say they are slightly louder than average. Nothing at all like a sun conure. However, they're loud enough that they'll set off a glass break detector if it's in the same room as it.

well yeh, i know for sure that an indian ringneck is bloody loud lol
we swapped our 2 for budgies + finches for our aviary

True, budgies are loud.

Mine don't shut up.. ever. I can put a cover over their cage, click off all the lights, and have the house completely silent and they're still fucking making noise.

Even here i get answers that are all over the place. Probably it depends on the bird and the owner and their relationship. Go figure.

The real tearjerker was that his last words to his trainer was something like "I love you. You'll come back tomorrow." And she said yes, she'd be back tomorrow, and then left for the night.

Glad that OP has made a decision based on the animal's welfare and not his/her own wants. I'm sort of in the same boat, I want to purchase a large parrot but am not financially ready for one.
