Hey /an/, I just bought this cactus at Home Depot and realized I don't know what kind it is or how to take care of it. Please help! I don't want my cactus to die!

Dude, it's a cactus. They've been engineered to survive in harsh desert climates. You probably won't screw this up.

1. Water it no more than twice per month. If you're extremely worried you'll forget, mark it down on a calendar or something.
2. No really, that's all you have to do.

In terms of placement, put it somewhere that it can get light, but not somewhere cold or moist. A windowsill is good if there isn't a draft. If there is, just place it a bit further away. Cactuses can handle a lot of abuse, so don't worry too much; you'll be fine.

Cacti can die.

I have the same kind, according to the tag, its a Mamillaria Enlongata Hybrid or "Copper King". Don't worry too much, I water it even less than once a month, and it's doing great. Biggest problem is usually overwatering, so don't panic. Just don't water more than enough to wet the top, maybe get a little dribble out the bottom, then stop.

put it in a bigger pot. and make sure it has some dirt. I bought a cactus and it was just glued to some foam with rocks glued around it.

OP here! No sitting on it yet, but I did water it for the first time. Maybe it won't die now.

OP again. I forgot to post this. (it was what the cactus was wrapped in) Sorry about the crappy flash but it was invisible without it.

To take care of a cactus, water it a few times every year.

End.

Also, re-plant it in a bigger pot every five years. Don't water it during the winter if it gets below 5 degC. And for crying out loud, don't overwater it.

During summer, if it's on a windowsill, turn it around every few weeks so it doesn't get sun on just one side.
