I've got a red fox den in the wilderness across a stream in my back yard. I'm curious that if I want to get a closer look, how should I approach it, what precautions I should take against a pissed off fox mother, and so on.

In before "Don't go close faggot". I saw eyes staring back at me last night and hear their crying, and would like to at least get a look beyond the shrubs clouding my view from my side of the stream's bank

use binoculars like any other intelligent person would.

I would if the shrubs don't mask any sort of view from my side of the stream's bank.

Use the internet, theres always a way. Maybe you should take them all in if you have no produce that is threatened? Foxes can be trained.

Don't mean to hijack thread but 1 red fox killed 25 of my next door neighbors chickens. So the mother pinned it to the shed wall with a pitchfork and her daughters beat it to death with a crowbar.

I...as much as I can understand how devastating a blow that can be to people who rear animals for a living, there are DEFINITELY more humane ways to kill a pest than that.

I'd be all for the humane thing, but 25 chickens is a lot. I mean, a lot. I'd be livid. A good egg laying chicken can get you like.. what, 5 eggs a week, if not more? Not to mention there was probably at least some emotional attachment, especially with a mom and children. Yeah, I would be pretty pissed off.

Foxes are ultra inquisitive, if you regularly cross and spend time over there, they will either get used to you and go about their business or they will move their territory. I doubt that they would tame so easily as to ever approach you, but they will be within viewing distance.

Pissed off is not an excuse to butcher the everliving fuck out of an animal that's only following instinct.

Wear thick leather gloves and other protective equipment. They will not attack you except they think you are going to attack their den but its better to be safe than sorry.

My uncle, a fox hunter, once captured a newly born fox and tried to tame it thinking it worked if it grew up among humans. It does not work. While they are young it is possible but as soon as they get to adulthood you cant keep them any longer.

No, but people do dumb things and don't think straight when they're mad.
