Get this instead, a good collection of many carnivorous plants.

As long as you have a lot of flies/flying insects in your house they should pretty much take care of themselves.

It's not hard to take care of, just keep them sorta wet (especially if you don't have lots of things flying around) and keep them away from the heat. Which is not to say, put them in the fridge, but don't put them on top of a heater or someplace where the sunlight will end up baking the surface (and your fly trap along with it). While you have to keep them wet, don't DROWN them (like my mom did while I was gone. sigh). Put the pot in a container with water so the bottom of the pot absorbs the water for the roots (don't put it on a pot that's too big either, or else the roots will never reach the water). Also, boil your water (OBVIOUSLY let the water COOL DOWN to room temperature first) before you water your flytrap.

Ummm, mine died after a year (thanks mom) and I haven't had the heart to get another one (well, I was just too lazy to go back to the botanical garden where I purchased them from) but it seems to really help the plant thrive if you let them out during the springtime (when there's all these things flying around outside) if the temperature and weather is nice. Also, don't trigger the mouth closing (there are these little hairs inside the mouth that act as tripwires that makes the mouth close when they're touched) because that just makes your plant die faster. Oh, and don't feed it anything but insects.

Good luck, they're awesome and it's amazing to watch them actually trap living insects (although potentially boring as the insects do tend to fly out of the mouth as soon as it starts closing and once it closes, it takes hours before it opens up again).

There was a big thread on these in /tg/. Had a good plan/tg/uy threads. He said he fed them small chunks of ham. And at some point, during winter season its good to put them in a refrigerator for downtime.

Sadly I had to reformat and lost all his tips.

They require nitrogen rich soils. They are endemic to South Carolina swamps for a reason -- they cannot tolerate unfavorable conditions.

You mean nitrogen poor, right? That's why they need insects to supplement their otherwise lack of nitrogen?

Quite the opposite. DO NOT give them any fertilizer or plant them in normal soil, it will kill them.

Also, never EVER give them pillbugs. It will kill the trap and leaf you give it no, if not the whole plant.

Make sure to keep it warm and moist, and it will thrive.

God damnit. OP, let me show you how it's done.
First of all, if you want it to not get any deadly chemical/nutrient buildup, you need to water it with distilled water only.
On the subject of feeding it, for the love of christ don't feed it meat or anything other than bugs. Unless you want a trap to die, never give it anything larger than a 1/3 trap size.
As for water, get a tray, bowl, or something, put in a few river rocks, set pot on rocks, fill with water about 3/4 inch above the bottom of the pot, and it'll be happy.
Try to keep it in humid conditions like under a clear glass/plastic dome, etc. It's not necessary, but it helps.
When you're picking one out, I suggest you get a couple. They're pretty fun, and I'm glad I have more than one. Now, it may seem tempting to get the tallest one with the largest traps, but I suggest you get plants at about medium height, with a healthy red color in the traps, and with a large number of small traps popping up from the center.
The kind of soil they like has to be acidic, low in nutrients, such as peat or coco coir. NEVER FERTILIZE IT.
Anyways, if you follow these steps, you should be able to grow a pretty fucking great flytrap.

What's wrong with pillbugs? Toxic metabolite for the plants?

All I thought was that they're really hard to catch. They wont stay in the trap at all.

Oh, and don't feed it anything but insects.

Maybe that's why mine died, I gave it cheese. :(
