Can anyone identify this arachnid?

It's about the size of a quarter. I found it crawling around my room - is it safe to go to sleep? It could have a family hiding around here. I'm cautious because I live in the Midwest and I think it may have been a Brown Recluse. Anybody know?

Sorry for shitty picture quality.

Too shiny to be a brown recluse, I think.

Brown recluses, from what I know, probably wouldn't be in your room or near your bed. They're called recluse because they make their homes in places that are hardly ever disturbed, kinda like black widows, except even more so. They probably wouldn't go exploring anywhere near you either.

Still, I like to keep my window and door boundaries sprayed with raid. Although, spiders probably don't care much about raid anyway. =P

TO THE OP: What part of the midwest? I'm from Utah and that thing looks familiar.

nobody could ID with that picture.

does it have the "fiddle" on the carapace? (carapace = top of the head) if not..then it's not a brown recluse.

My uneducated guess is a crab spider. You know, the ones that sit on flowers 'n change colour. Maybe they're called different over there, IDK.

It's a crab spider. They're harmless to humans.

They also have a neat ability to change their coloration to match their surroundings.

I can't tell you what it is for sure, but I can tell you what it's not.

It isn't a brown recluse or widow, and it isn't a black widow.
Those are the only three really dangerous spiders in the US, and I don't even think widows range that far, though I might be wrong about that.
Even if you do get bitten by a recluse, as long as you get it treated it will only leave a small scar, if anything.
Black or brown widows are the only really dangerous spiders we have here.
