>> Anonymous
>>237629
Oddly enough, the one or two young goths who've heard of me didn't recognize the name. I picked it up years ago and it's never had any emo connotation. I guess I can see what you mean I just can't see it that way. I'm just Corax now. It feels natural. God that makes me sound like a furry.
>> Anonymous
>>237630

Corvus Corax, you decided to be Common?
>> Anonymous
>>237632

Well I didn't name myself that. I had a semi-pet Raven for a little while. By that I mean that it kept coming back to my house and I was feeding it when it did. It would eat out of my hand but once it got the last bite I learned to move away quickly because it would grab at my hands too. I actually got the name because the thing was collecting shiny crap from all over and leaving it on my porch and one of my friends realized that when I was out I would pick shiny things up from the ground to leave for the bird. My friend happened to be a biologist so I ended up being called Corax. That raven kept coming back to me for a few years then disappeared. I still have his pile of shiny things.

Yes. We had a friendship consummated in raw meat and shiny bits of string. It's become a part of me. I still notice the tiny gleams in the grass and want to bring them to him. It's why I wish keeping one were legal. I'd love to have another bird to spoil.

In elementary school, we had wardens that sealed off the different grade levels with steel reinforced glass doors.

When the lower classes left for a field trip, a man brought in his mountain lion into the school to show us 4th graders. It was one of the coolest moments of our childhood lives to see it effortlessly jump up on the tables and then act like a big house cat towards him.

I could have had a pet cougar, /an/! (not that it's so strange here in the middle US, there's a guy that sells lions and bears like a dog kennel in Oklahoma).

Corax when I started this thread I was sure you were some sort of goth but you are apparently some sort of crazy bird man and that is pretty cool. You've probably already thought of this but you should let the local wildlife organizations know of your interest in Corvids and maybe if they find an injured one they'll send it your way to nurse back to health. You seem like the sort of person that would really enjoy that.

WTF!! We now know the origin of the Tleilaxu Axlotl tanks! 'Axolotls are used in research because they can regenerate most parts of their body"

Well, we know the etymology, anyway. The tanks themselves are actually Tleilaxu females...

>>238921
I had a bunch of these for a couple years. They're not as fun as they sound... or maybe I'm not imaginative enough?

They convert food directly into babies, and will reproduce even when starving. The only way to keep their population stable is to underfeed them so they eat their own young. Being young at the time, I never actually thought of just keeping a few femaes or males...

Incidentally, mine were free... my youth pastor got around 20 adults for a youth group 'fear factor' event and didn't really want them after that.

About the crows...
There are many species of crows across the world...many of them are raised in the US as aviary birds...which means they are as legal to own as a canary...just stick to non-native stuff..same with raptors...instead of going through all the falconer bullshit you can just jump the minor hoops to have one imported...or buy a non-native one somebody else alreadey imported/breed/raised etc...

Barn Owl!

I had this Children's Encyclopedia collection that had a big article on Barn Owls, so since I was six I have wanted one really bad. And reading 'Owls in the Family' in grade school didn't help, either.

Lol, I made such a fuss about it once that my dad told me I could have one for a pet if I managed to catch it. I spent at least ten collective hours one weekend with a butterfly net, sitting in my uncle's hay-loft.

also fun story: My cousin has an African Grey Parrot that they adopted. A young couple bought it, couldn't take care of it, and gave it to the local Petco for adoption. The only problem: it fluently swore in Spanish and English. It would just sit there and screech out obscenities. Such as this gem: "OH GOD FUCK ME FUCK ME" (I wonder if they kept it in the bedroom or something?) or "Charles get me a fucking beer". My cousin has both a great sense of humor and a big heart so he took it in. Roy and him have been living together for six years now, and my cousin never gets tired of his companionship. He just can't have him out in polite company.

My family had a young crow we saved after the top part his beak got knocked off by being clipped by a truck. He was a smart little bastard, and soon he figured out not only how to keep the indoor cat in line on week one (she was an Abby, natural birder) but how call us for different things. Never liked to be petted but enjoyed the company of people and was really picky with his bird food. Shame a damn raccoon got him.

We took the next two crows my dad rescued to shelters. No pressure or biting, just the two looked each other in the eye, and that was that.

I've raised several baby birds that fell out of their nests over the years. It's illegal yeah, but I'm off the chain like that. I've had:

a couple sparrows
a scarlet taniger
bluejay (thing was freaking MEAN the entire time I had it, it would land on my head and peck me till I gave it something to eat)
a mockingbird that used to mimic the phone ring and other noises
a few cardinals
a blackbird

They can be fed dog food soaked in milk with a tweezer (carefully) till they are old enough to peck seed. I don't recommend this unless you have tons of time to spend caring for it. Or just don't do it.

As for what pet I would want, see pic
