Never feed your cat dry cat food.

My cat got diabeetus and died shortly after (not joking, had to put him to sleep because he was suffering... badly).

Feed your cat a high protein diet, and never leave out food all day long.
>> Anonymous
>>168454
your one fluke cat is not enough to discourage millions of healthy cats who have 24/7 access to dry food
>> Anonymous
>>168455

It is true that dry food has higher carb content compared to wet food though. That's how they are able to press it into pellets in the first place.
>> Anonymous
Open your eyes, idiot. The cats I see on /an/ are always overweight, and look terrible.

A group of prestigious veterinarians have told me that dry cat food is very unhealthy for cats. Look it up, ask your vet, if you don't believe me. Till then, stop fucking over the pets you look after.

Buy some low-carb dry food.

Shut up, retard. I took my cat to a very famous animal hospital in Manhattan. They weren't pushing products, they were telling me to get cat food that is high in protein.

and that can be gotten from dry cat food just as well from wet.

Dry food that is high in protein and low in carbs?
>> tigerfeather !CrwtTbFNxQ
>>168439
Yeah, this is what you need to do. Quit free-feeding, and only feed slightly less than recommended on the back of your cat food bag, split up into two meals daily.

>>168460
Dear sir, I hope that is an inside joke and you aren't serious. Science Diet has THE MOST corn content of any premium food out there. Ick!

>>168473
yes. High in protein, low in carbs dry food does exist.

fat cats have same problems as fat people. limited food intake doesnt solve the problem alone. make the fat cat MOVE. otherwise it will just adjust the limited food intake and somehow remain fat (dont know why, nature is so). promise
>> Anonymous
>>168506
yea, that crazy norwegian who makes cat wheels worked out a system where the cat would have to walk on the wheel for so long and then some food would be dispensed. We need something like that at mcdonalds I think lol

Feed it less, and get a laser pointer. Cats go crazy chasing them, and it doesn't require much effort exercising them on your part. Also, shining the pointer on the wall behind your couch delivers some good lulz when the cat tries to jump for it, hits the wall, and falls behind the couch.

This is my parents' cat Reeses. She weighs about 15lbs, but eats no more than a cup of dry food a day (nibbles all day long even) and gets wet food and treats at intervals during the week. She even runs around with a laser pointer and chases lizards on my parents' porch often. After she got spayed she ballooned up like this.

She has no thyroid or diabetes problems and as far as the vet can tell, she's incredibly healthy. Also when you pet her she's very SOLID rather than fatty and squishy. So more or less she's a ball of muscle. We think this was a natural defense to my brother who would play-fight with her a lot when she was a scrawny kitten.

>>168547
ah it feels good to know that iam not the only bastard who does that
>> Elfdoll Ryung
Don't feed it all wet food, like some of these posters may make you think you should. Wet food is very rich (like steak) and so they should not eat it all the time, or they will get very fat and squishy.

by the way we have three cats here, a kitten, a male and a female, dry food 24/7, wet twice a day. none of them is fat, they're all healthy

You idiots should just let your cats outside! It's the most effective and enriching way of giving your cats exercise!

/in b4 GRRRRR OUT DOOR CATS!!!1

I understand your logic, but if YOU were a cat, wouldn't you prefer to live a few years shorter if it meant being able to exlore the outside, instead of congealing inside a house 24/7 ?
>> Anonymous
Take it to the vet and run a junior wellness blood test first. This could be a symptom of hypothyroidism or something else, in which case a sudden change in diet could be dangerous. (Also possible diabetes)
>> Anonymous
stop feeding it crap food, such as:
Eukanuba, Iams, purina, Cat chow, meow mix, Nutro brands of any kina, technical. Feed your cat either: wellness, Innova, or GO or NOW, then you will see an improvement. Your poor cat eats more because it is lacking full nutrition from crap food brands. better food equals less food intake because your cat is now not trying to eat more in hopes of reaching nutritional fullness. ANYWAYS BETTER FOOD = SMALLER CAT. OH and let your cat outside to exersize
>> Anonymous
Feed him some porridge with tuna fish mixed in it. And only once a day.
>> Anonymous
>>169712
Porridge? As in fibrous carbohydrate gunk? It's a cat, not a baby, retard!
>> Anonymous
OP, if you torture your cat it will lose weight from the psychological and physical abuse. It's much easier and more fun than a diet plan.

My beloved Crush has -always- been an out door cat. Granted he never strays far. Always within a whistle's call. He's ten years old and in perfect health.

Let your cats go outside you prissy fags.

Having an 'outdoor cat' is no different than animal abuse in my book.

>>169861
Well, fuck your books, then. Unless of course you can point out good reasons as to why.

>>169863
You're exposing your cat to disease, parasites, predators. You're essentially ripping off years of their life because you can't be assed to pay attention to them in the house.
>> tigerfeather !CrwtTbFNxQ
>>169864
What about working/farm dogs? They have the same issues.

I think that you're just too attached to your sense of lawful good.

You should do the same thing with your children. Keep them inside, becasue they could get hurt if they go outside. Plus there are bears and lightning storms and axe-wielding murderers out there too. Any of those could hurt your children. Don't let them on furniture either, becasue they could fall off and hurt themselves. You also have to keep them away from sharp objects or anything poisonous, so don't let them in the kitchen or the bathroom. They could choke on some food, so you can't give them solid food either. Puree everything in a blender before you give it to them to eat, that way there aren't any big chunks for them to choke on. Make sure you don't operate the blender with them nearby though, becasue the noise could startle them, and that would be bad.

I have two cats. An older male who's fluffy but all muscle and a young female who went from quite thin to a bit fat after getting fixed. Weird thing is I play with her all the time, and she plays with the male cat all day, running around the house like crazy. I guess I'll just step up the exercise and take away the dryfood during the day...?
>> Anonymous
>>169861
Fuck your retarded PETA logic. Why the fuck do you people equate letting a cat outside with abusing it? I love my indoor/outdoor cats and they love me, that's why they come in and sit on my lap all night. If one of them got hurt I'd take it to the vet and treat it, just as I would if they were exclusivly indoor pets.

Ticky is an outdoor cat, has been for 4 years or so now. He eats whenever he wants, dry food only. Has a dog thats his best friend and 300 milking cows to supply him with fresh milk when he asks our sharefarmer during milking. He has the best life.

Our last cat lived to 21, same diet. Im sure they eat as many mice and such as they want. The last cat killed and ate snakes too. Outside doesnt kill them if they are intelligent.
>> Anonymous
>>170113
>if they are intelligent.

lulz, that's the main reason I don't let my cats go outside.

also, this pic is seriously old.

>>169904
I equate NOT letting cats outside with abuse. But I suppose if your cat has been living indoors for like forever and it won't know how to properly defend itself outside or not get run over then maybe it's not a good idea to let it out.

My mom has a cat but she won't let him out for shit. And the cat cries when she's right out the door and she still won't let him out and when I do let it out it wants to walk outside but then my mom puts him back inside. That's horrible. I don't even do that to my own birds.

But you know what'd be pretty cool, fucking cat armor. It'll rule whole the block!
