Dude, it's a cactus. They've been engineered to survive in harsh desert climates. You probably won't screw this up.
1. Water it no more than twice per month. If you're extremely worried you'll forget, mark it down on a calendar or something. 2. No really, that's all you have to do.
In terms of placement, put it somewhere that it can get light, but not somewhere cold or moist. A windowsill is good if there isn't a draft. If there is, just place it a bit further away. Cactuses can handle a lot of abuse, so don't worry too much; you'll be fine.
