So I've got bees living in my house, how do I steal their honey? I'm assuming they don't have the cognitive capacity to make a secondary entrance, so should I block this one off?
>> Anonymous
those bees are going to sting your nutsack. the kind used for honey harvesting are somewhat docile compared to the wild ones. besides, you probably have wasps, not honey bees, so you're double screwed.

why not just buy honey for 2 bucks at the store? or if you want the fancy schmancy fresh honey, it's like 5-10 bucks for a hugeass jar

OP here,
I'm pretty sure wasps aren't fuzzy and the bee hole is eight inches from my front door so that increases the chance of stingings, also, how do you tell if bees are of the killer variety?
>> Anonymous
>>147477
If they are fuzzy, then those a bumble bees. Very peaceful and they don't store any honey. So no reason to bother them.

Be careful that you don't get stuck in the window

Honeybees are fuzzy too.....

Depends. If their hind part is fuzzy, then they're bumblebees. If their middle part is fuzzzy, then they're honeybees. Still, why would you disturb their nest if you can get honey much easier at the store?

Smoke them out.

That is not a good guideline. Honeybees have hairs all over their bodies, even on their abdomen.

Have a look at this:

http://georgiafaces.caes.uga.edu/graphicsfiles/honeybee.hi-res.jpg

For that matter, google image search for honeybee and look at any photo (assuming the resolution is good enough) and their abdomens are quite clearly hairy. There is typically less hair on their abdomen than on the rest of their body, but the hair is still there.

Wasps on the other hand are entirely hairless.

The more visible the stinger is, the more likely it is that said bee is a bastard.

Like muddaubers. Those things have like inch long stingers. You do not want to mess with them.

Bumble bees, on the other hand, have stingers that are barely visible as their big, fuzzay abdomens tend to hide their sad excuse for stingers. Even so I wouldn't recommend pissing them off.

The key is to find out what kind of bee/hornet/wasp you have in order to know how to treat its stings because if you treat a sting the wrong way, it can get worse.

I'm not exactly sure how anyone could fail to tell the difference between a wasp, a honey bee and a bumble bee. They're so different I've been able to tell them apart from I was something like five years old.

As for harvesting any honey the possibly-bees may have gathered: mind that the hive will be full of bees, so even if you close the entrance, they'll be in there, waiting there, stingers ready. You'd have to wait for them to starve, and I'm fairy sure they'd eventually start eating it before allowing themselves and their queen to die. In other words: forget about it.

I suggest just calling an exterminator or killing them with fire.

I agree completely with you, but it's shocking how many people can't or won't. I have met many people that assume that any small, flying, bug that stings (or "bites") is a "bee". They don't even bother to look at the details.

RUN YOU FOOL

Ick. Had bees living in my wall and I had to get an exterminator. They started attacking everything in sight, and my sister even ran around screaming her head off when one started to burrow into her hair. Such a mess.

No one ever got burned overestimating human stupidity.
>> Anonymous
Shit, i had a house infestation years ago. If you're not careful the hive will penetrate your walls and you'll need to pay out the ass to take care of it. Fire bad. Poison good. Exterminators also good.
>> Anonymous
>>147477

There is no way to tell if they are killer bees or not as the two are physically identical. Call a bee removal company (or plain old exterminators if you don't have bee removal dudes in your area) and have them take care of it. You do not want to risk your life or your health. This is not Man Vs Wild. There is not enough honey in there to be worth it.

Fuck these pussies, smoke the bees out, then rip open your wall and get the sweet awesome honey out. Everyone telling you to call a professional is a pudding who's too afraid of a few bee stings to get some free fucking honey. Make sure you post pix.
(in b4 the OP tears open his wall over some carpenter bees.)

but 100 stings=painfull death
>> Anonymous
>>148580
People have survived thousands of stings before. So 100 stings = pain with the potential for death, but not guaranteed death.

I know, getting stung by bees hurts. If only we had some way to produce smoke to get them out of the hive and make them docile so we could rob them of their delicious honey. Too bad science hasn't discovered a way to burn wood, we have to wait for lightning to strike a tree and get the precious fire from there.

Smoke doesn't work on africanized bees, just pisses them off and makes them want to kill you more.
>> Anonymous
use cannabis smoke

>>148620
I've not heard of carpenter bee honey being any good. Best just to get rid of the bees.
>> Anonymous
>>147463

Just reach your hand in and grab a handful of honey. Don't be scared, they can smell fear. If you respect them, they'll respect you

Don't tell the OP that carpenter bees don't make honey, I want to see him tear up his house for nothing.

...oops.

Holy fucking shit, an unsubstantiated claim on 4chan! It must be true despite the fact that I've seen evidence to the contrary!
Africanized bees sure are dangerous! It's not like they aren't the main strain of bees now being used in Brazil for honey production! And I heard in South Africa the keepers of M. Scutellata (the original African bee that was used to create the Africanized bees here) have to wear armored spacesuits, it's so dangerous to keep them! They don't just keep them like regular fucking bees at all! HOLY FUCK!!

Hey, those suits are good in cases of zombie attacks too.

Also, why has no one suggested he get a dog to eat the bees?

My dog eats bees, among other things. I've seen her eat a carpenter bee, a yellow jacket, and a horsefly.
