Snake Shedding Question. Anonymous
My snake just shed for the first time.
Her Shed looked fine. I found eye caps and a tail tip. :]
When i found the shed it was in a ball. I've never seen a shed like that before.
And I checked the cage, there were little spots of blood.
I looked at her quite well and did not seem to see any problems.
Is bleeding normal in young snakes?
Or in shedding at all?

Sell it. Buy a new snake.

The shed being in a ball is normal. They have to rub on stuff to get it off, and sometimes they can get it all off in one place. The blood however is not normal. It probably cut itself on something sharp in the cage while it was rubbing on stuff.

she might have pulled it off hard in an area and cut herself slightly. i would give her a good check over for any cuts or abrasions sustained.

also, if it was dark/dried blood perhaps it was from whatever you feed her?

Whenever my python shows signs of shedding, I give her a daily bath in lukewarm water until she sheds. It REALLY helps, as I found out after she refused to strip her back and I had to manually peel her.

It was her first time shedding.
I had to wait for her to shed to feed her so that was not the case.

Although the bathing is good advice, you're never supposed to manually peel a snake. If your snake has problems shedding, up the humidity with a second water bowl over the heat source, or provide a moss box.
