I need your help /an/,

Today I took my dog of 14 years to the vet. Lately she's been acting unusual, going in the house, weezing, drinking extra.

The vet said she has a growth in her stomach and a UTI. The surgery for the growth is expensive and could have complications. He suggested at her age the best option was to put her to sleep.

I asked for medicine for the UTI and some painkillers to ease with pain. I don't know what to do, she's my best friend and I love her more than anything. Any advice?

I'd see if the medication works and if it does, don't get her put to sleep.

But if she still seems to be in pain....sorry, but you should put her to sleep, she'd be suffering

just put her to sleep, operations in animals so old are never worth it

sorry

Think for the animal, not yourself.

If you really love the animal, you know you have to let her go and not suffer because you can't handle losing a friend.

Sadly, putting her to sleep seems like the best option.
Dog of that age rarely survives the surgery.
Drugs would only postpone the inevitable for a short time. Painkillers would also make her drowsy and apathetic.

This looks like the same picture of the dog someone posting saying that they woke up and their dog was dead...same age too.

Yeah, same owner and dog.

I guess he didn't have to give her surgery afterall.

The "growth" in the stomach may be caused by mineral deposits in the water calcifying. Though this is usally found in the bladder. In such an old dog recovery from surgery is always uncertain. A UTI can usualy be treated with a broad spectrum antibiotic such as Cephalexin (Keflex) An AID analgesic such as Meloxicam (Metacam) would also prove usefull. In a dog of this age any surgery would prove costly & at best only temporarily postpone the inevitable. It's a heart-rending decision to make. But you must also consider the dog's quality of life!.

No matter what you do your dog is growing old and will keep getting sicker as it does.

Do you want to keep it alive to suffer through this?

You got to let her go man.

at her age, getting her put to sleep is the best thing for her. chances are she wont make it through surgery

ihad two dogs, one had a cancerous lump on her leg, one has a tumor in her brain. they were 12 and 10 respectivley
our option was to have them put to sleep

its heart breaking, i know. but it is the best option

My dog was 15 years old, and the same thing happened.
I decided to put him down rather then have him go through a painful surgery, and long recovery only to live another year or so. I think it's best for the dog.
