A Cambodian fisherman holds a giant stingray fish on the Mekong River near the Cambodian/Vietnam border on Dec. 10, 2002, about 100 kilometers (60 miles) southeast of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The disk of this fish measured 202 centimeters (79.5 inches) and 413 centimeters (162.6 inches) from the tip of its nose to the end of its tail. The giant stingray may be the largest species of freshwater fish in the world. More species of giant fish occur in the Mekong River than any other river on Earth. Populations of the giant stingray and other large-bodied Mekong fish are in decline.
