What are the possibilities of an outdoors cat becoming feral? My cat is an outdoors cat, and when I say that I mean it pretty much lives outside and only comes inside to eat, which is just once a day or even less. It still hangs around the house mostly, but it seems like it's around less now.

I might just be worrying too much though. The cat has kinda been like this for a year, and even though it can be gone for days at a time, it's still affectionate as hell and comes around when you call for it, assuming it's around.

Pic sorta related since I got it off google.

If it's eating less than once a day at your house, then it probably has already become feral. If it's a he, it will roam even further when it wants to mate, regardless of whether you have it neutered or not.

You just happen to be lucky enough to still have your house within its territory.

Meh. I wouldn't consider it your cat if it only comes in once for food.

He has abandoned you for a new family. The reason he only eats once a day cus he gets fed better at the other home and they take him inside and try to keep him there but he eventualy gets out and trys to head back home. Im sorry but your cat doesnt love you any more.

What a contradictory post. Cat does love the OP, otherwise it wouldn't try to return "home".

Feral cats do not need love, and cats are fine by themselves in general.
Some animals will other bother with you if you feed them. Like raccoons.

OP's cat does not love him and its his own fault for keeping it outdoors.

The word "love" is not in the feline dictionary. They just have "mildly tolerant", "slightly less haet" and "maybe I won't kill you in your sleep".

OP: Yes, domestic cats can become feral. As long as it still acts like a housecat (cuddles, comes when called, etc) it is not feral. A feral cat will not let you touch it, though it may eat food you provide it with.

Cats can love. Snailcat may only have "haet" and "slightly less haet", but my tomcat definately loves me. Said tom is much like the OP's cat. He spends a lot of time outside, but comes home to eat, and at night he curls about my face and cuddles me. If I am sick, he will lay on my chest and growl whenever anyone comes close (Including my partner, who he KNOWS won't hurt me).

There are people who have met him who used to think animals did not have emotions and could not love. They don't think that now. You just have to prove to them that you love them first.

Pic very related.

Personally, I think your tom is gay and it's just mutual attraction due to gayness rather than actual loev.

Considering how often he's tried to bone snailcat, I don't think so. He also beats the fuck out of any male cats around, but he's tolerant of the kittens (he did run off the brandocat that sired them, though)
