/an/ I come to you tonight in need of assistance. My cat has recently developed a habit of urinating around the house. He started about 6 months ago and I immediately had him neutered and he hasn't had a problem since about a week ago. I have scrubbed the areas he goes with urine remover but it has had no effect. I really don't want to give him up, but I can't have him doing this especially since the place I am living in is not mine. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience with this?

Check for a bladder infection.

Is there anything that i can look for myself that would tell?

Male cat's frequently get UTIs. You should try feeding him Iams Urinary Tract Formula.
About $11 for a 7lb bag at Walmart.

Don't just arbitrarily feed him UTI food when there's no evidence he has a UTI. Just watch him when he goes to the bathroom. Is he meowing, straining but no wizz coming out? If so, get that cat to a vet ASAP. If not, then he probably doesn't have a UTI.

maybe if you wouldn't let him drink shitty vodka he wouldn't have this problem.

But seriously, what you need to do is lock him in a small room with a pan of aquarium gravel with a little litter, just something he can scratch around in. Wait for him to urinate then check the pH with a strip. A regular cat should be between 6.6 - 6.8. If it is higher or lower you need to call a vet immediately.

fucking PRAY it doesn't have any kind of bladder infection, it will cost you a fortune and a lot of frustration for you and the cat

check the urine for any kind of blood traces too

and even if he doesn't have it, as a general rule you should encourage him to drink lots of water in order to prevent it.

Hey Anon. I just finished dealing with this same problem myself. My kitty had an inflamed bladder, no infection no urinary crystals just an irritated bladder (150 dollars in vet bills for them to say "just get him to drink more water"... grrr) . When cats have problem with their urinary tract they don't think "it hurts when I pee" they think "it hurts when I pee HERE" so they tend to try out all sorts of new locations... like your carpet. For my cat we him more fluids in his diet (wet food supplements) and got him more natural *chicken* based food (fish based food has more mineral because they leave the bones in) and that helped, but he still saw the places that he'd whizzed in the house as pee-here places. First I tried all the usual crap. Cleaning the area, putting down tinfoil to keep him from walking on the area etc. Kitty had (and still has) got it in his head that it hurts when he pees in his litter box, so he's not using it (he goes outside for now) but has completely stopped peeing in the wrong areas.

What I did was this:
Cleaned the area that he peed on with boiling water & baking soda (got rid of the odor better than anything else I'd tried) Then put little dishes of food where he'd been peeing before. Cat's seem to abide by the rule "you don't shit where you eat"

And as a general stress reliever I got him "feliway" which is a spray that mimics their facial pheromones so they don't scratch/urine mark, and chill out in general. expensive but has helped him chill out.

Kitty had had me at my wits end (though unintentionally I'm sure) but now everything is rosy.

P.S. If you think he might have a sensitive urinary system (he's licking his junk a lot and goes to the bathroom a lot) a good tip is also to completely avoid cat foods with "ash" in them, that's bone ash, and contains tons of minerals which might be stressing his urinary system.

VET. He may have a bladder infection or something like that.
