If you have ever seen that Butlight commercial where it gave you the ability to talk to animals then you wouldn't really want that ability.

If you mean hold a conversation like you and I can IRL? (4chan is less about conversation more about regurgitation)... then probably not for a fair while, I'd imagine one was is to have some sort of vocal dialect that both us and dogs can use, probably a combinations of whistles grunts and some sort of woof.

But you can already communicate on a basic level with them, body language, expression, and context. Eg, a dog understands if you want it to sit, or if you're angry at it. (So many mistake dogs for looking 'guilty' when in actual fact they are responding to your tension)

But I think the real breakthrough will come when dogs or any other animal, can communicate sort of past experiences or what they are thinking to us. (I'm not talking like mind reading), but the ability to essentially express an experiences to another.

Eg, If I saw a fantastic waterfall, I can communicate to you, even through basic excitability to come and have a look at it. But animals, I haven't seen any real desire for them to express anything like that. Why doesn't our dog sort of play out the story of when they chased a rabbit and caught it? Why doesn't our cat tease us to come and climb the tree with them? It is very much, reacting to the then and now sort of thing.

I personally hope, that once we get over that little milestone, weather it be through training or some sort of evolutionary state, the rest will all start to slot into place over time.

So will we ever be able to talk to dogs?

Only one way to tell, you have to go out and start making it happen, find out why we can't at the moment, and what's stopping us from having our very own Jetson's Astro
