Unlike dogs, cats are going to pick and choose. I had two cats. One I still have, who "chose" me and only me. She hates everybody else, but loves on me constantly. The other one now lives with my brother; after tending to her as an ill kitten for weeks, she decided she liked him better and that was that. She still hates me, presumably because I had to force her to take medication.
So, I guess people who need to feel loved and worshiped are better off with a dog. I like and have both. Your general anon is a feelingless bastard who doesn't care if things like him or not, so cats of all temperaments usually work well for that, particularly since anon is also lazy and doesn't usually want to walk or play with a dog.
