What you are seing is the tannins from the wood being released into your tank.
Unforunately, washing driftwood is not enough. What you can do now (and should do next time to avoid having murky water) is soak it in a large tub of water over the course of several days or weeks (the time depends on how murky the water gets) while changing the water every day. Keep doing that until the water remains clear, and then you can stick it back in your tank.
Not to worry though, tannins usually don't have an adverse affect to the water, though it can kill enough of the beneficial bacteria in your tank to cause some problembs. Just keep a close monitor on your water parameters.
Good luck!
