So /an/ I've decided that when I move out in s few years that I'd like to get a snake. So I figure I better start researching now. Problem is, I don't know what kind I want (and can have), or what would be best suited for living in an apartment or even if them living in an apartment with me would be okay (for them naturally I don't give a shit about the other people that'll be living in the building.)

Preferably I want a decent sized snake, but I don't want anything huge either (biggest thing I want it eating is a medium sized rat.)

I'd it like to be non venomous, and a species of snake that will generally tolerate being handled. And interestingly colored, but thats not really a must.

So Snake people of /an/ what would you recommend? And also post pics of your snakes.

Ball python or corn snake.

They're the best snakes, period.

agreed. that or a king snake.

i'd go with corn snakes though. sometimes ball pythons can be picky eaters at first.

ok so a King snake, ball python or a corn snake so far.

Out of curiosity, How do I make sure that I get a snake that will eat something thats been frozen then thawed? (if its possible) I may have to call this whole snake thing off if I can't guarantee that it will eat something I bought frozen. Yeah I'm not gonna lie I'm a pussy about that. If I see it alive ever I'm just going to sit there and cry about it if the thing dies which had potential to become a good pet for someone. Yup rather have it dead before I see it.

I agree with you. I own rats and hamsters while I also have a ball python.
Ask the pet store what the feed him, because the pet store I feed them only feed frozens. But when my corn snake decided to be picky and not eat frozen food for a while, I just needed to move it around with a pair of tongs and he went right for it.

Oh good, so I'm not the only one who thinks like that. And those are good tips, thanks I'll keep those in mind when I finally get the little bugger.

look into adopting one from www.petfinder.com/. You could find many near you, some with their own equipment, and all of them needing homes!

don't get some crappy corn. Get a brazilian rainbow boa or some emerald tree boa. Maybe a carpet python.

not the kind you have pictured, they cost like 800+ dollars, are picky eaters, and like to bite. They also require a very specific cage set up. Corn snakes are easy to keep, as are kings and pine snakes. Ball pythons are more laid back then corn snakes.

corns are not crappy! Emeralds are expensive, as are carpets, and both difficult snakes to keep, not for beginers. Remember the more you pay for the snake, generally the more difficult it will be to care for

people that really care for and appreciate snakes don't think of different species as crappy. you fail ma'am. i like corns a lot more than boas or pythons..but i don't think either of them are crappy snakes. grow up.
