Anyone have any words of wisdom for someone considering getting a praying mantis?

Thankfully, I don't have one.

Give them tons of ventilation and don't keep them humid. Just spray the enclosure every once in a while.

Also, feed often. Being a spiderfag, I neglected to feed a batch of baby mantises when I ran out of pinhead crickets and thought it was going to be fine if they didn't eat for two weeks. All but one died.

And give them something sturdy to molt off of or they will fall and die.

Mantisfag here. Get Chinese mantises. They are xbawx hueg, like 6 inches and are a pretty good "beginner" mantis because they eat fucking anything and are hardy. They need 60% humidity, so if you live in a dry climate like I do, invest in a hydrometer.

They're a little hard to raise from nymphs because A. There are so fucking many B. Half of them die off on their first molt so if you buy like 4 L1 nymphs, beware.

Make sure you can get food appropriate for their size. Be careful with crickets, they can kill it.

Tons of care sheets and info online too.

I thought they would start eating each other if they had no other food (???)

That would be why all but one died.
