Dear /an/:
alright so I has a kitty, his name is Edgar Dean. He is an indoor/outdoor cat. One day I noticed that his toe was all puffy and was losing its fur. I decided that I'd watch it for a bit to see if it'd get worse. The swelling has gone down, and there are no longer scabby looking things on his toe, but obviously, it is still bald.

What do you think of this? Infected toe?

Not sure, but he's a beautiful kitty.
Looks kinda like my cat Tinkerbell.

Sounds like an abscess. Did it smell terrible? If so, it may be/have been one. An abscess will feel like a patch of fluid under the skin, and will often have a scabby, gross drainage area. It's extremely dangerous if there is NOT a drain.

If there is no swelling and the area is not tender (ie you can touch it without your cat trying to fucking kill you), then the fur will grow back and he'll be fine. If it was an abscess, then watch that it does not return, as without treatment the chances of it are extremely good. To treat an abscess, you basically have to tear open the wound, clean it out good, and watch that it heals. If there is no natural drain, this consists of a lance (hot needle) being jabbed into the area, the pus being rinsed out with saline, and then ointment to fight the infection being injected/smeared over the area. Not a fun thing.

My cat had one of these on his lip recently. It swelled wicked bad but once it started to drain did so pretty quickly. Its still bald and a bit scabbed looking.
Cat fur can stake a while to grow back if the cat has recently delt with stress, so I wouldn't worry too much.
