this is my dog, and we know that he is part cocker spaniel, but we can't figure out what the rest of him is!

Cocker spaniels don't have head hair or beards... and their ears are longer. He is not a full cocker spaniel.

Um, yeah they do, if you let them grow out. And their ears only go to their jowls, the rest is hair.

Get the dog a haircut and see what I mean.

Well, I have looked through a shitload of cocker spaniel books, and none of them bear the proper resemblence. he is definately mixed with something.

Well, I used to be a dog groomer for quite a few years, and yes, this is exactly what overgrown dogs would look like. It's pretty hard for people who haven't dealt with thousands of dogs to see the resemblance under coats, so I don't expect you to. Go get your dog a haircut, then tell me that I'm wrong, okay?

While the coat does appear to be lighter than the run-of-the-mill cocker spaniels, none of us will have any clue unless you give the damn dog a haircut.
