House mice in my apartment Syd2K !yHzbaFtyPA
I just sawe a cheeky li'l bastard of a house mouse poke it's head at me from the corner. What's good bait I can use to lure these bastards to my traps (I use humane traps so I can let them out FAR AWAY from my place)?

Also, in B4 "get a cat". (Or a ferret for that matter.)

you know , even if you do set them free far away from your house, chances are there are 10 more just waiting to take that ones place?

get a lion and a car and you're good to go.

the usual cheese, also steamy ricearoni, spaghetti, mac&cheese, anything giving off a good alluring strong smell when cooked.

Peanut butter works well with rats and would probably work well with mice also.
Syd2K? You live in Sydney, eh? :)

I had two in my place, so I did the ghetto empty toilet paper roll thing. The next morning, there were two mice in my trash can, only one was dead, and its face was missing.

Balancing an empty toilet paper roll with peanut butter on one side off some mouse-accessible platform so that when the mouse tries to get the peanut butter, the roll will fall into a container. It's not the most reliable of traps, but I'm super-lazy.

Wow, that's a great idea. You just forgot to add a picture of a mouse in the bucket with "PROFIT!" attached to it.

did you know that mice can fit through holes about this big?

i had mice in my doorm room and they got in through some electrical cable hole, and it really wasnt very wide, but if i remember correctly the reason is that the mice have soft bones, they can get through holes that are slimmer than the size of their head, about the thickness of your little finger

OP said they have humane traps but I know that is not gonna work. I've tried it.

I've caught wild mice once in our garage, once in our back room, once in our linen closet who managed to escape through a tiny hole underneath the water heater, and a few other times.

Since I didnt have live traps or anything fancy, a bunch of flat boxes taped together to border off the entire section, some pillow cases, smaller boxes, also take empty toilet paper rolls and stick them into old socks, set them in tight spaces to lure the mouse into work well, and you have to have the patience.

Wild mice can jump nearly 3 feet high vertically, they'll certainly jump straight out of a giant plastic bucket, if they are dumb to fall for that while reaching for the food.

not if you fill the bucket with water half way up, but that won't be as humane of course

wouldn't ever do that, no. I've caught 3 separate mice on different occasions just with box barricades and all that stuff, and the first time I did catch the two I released them in the neighbors backyard after time, and the bigger one came back to me twice!

OP here, since I wrote the OP, I've caught three of the little buggers, two of them stumbling into the dry trash bin, where I grabbed the bin and took it outsisde. The other I saw its tail around the crack of a cupboard so I nabbed it by the tail.

I never just let them go outside, I take them at least 100 metres into a nearby park and let them go. The last time I had mice was many years ago, I used to let them go at the local public sports field, that's about 3-400 meters away. One time I let one go in themiddle of the field, with nowhere to hide, but as I turned away and walked back home I heard a swoop of wings and a highpitched squeak. I *don't* leave them there now, but at the edge of the field, where there is long grass and trees to hide.

I sense a disdurbance in the tread...

Peanut butter in a humane trap always did the trick for me - make sure to check it regularly!

Put it along a wall or something. Mice rarely go out into the middle of open spaces.
