Hi /an/.

My cat's learned that he can open his auto-feeder by just fiddling with it for a while. We all either have school or work during the day at my house, and if we fill up his bowl he eats until he pukes, so he needs separate meals.

Do you know of any cheap auto-feeders that are hard to open?

Pic is my cat by the way.

use duct tape on either the feeder or your cats mouth

Put away the feeder, and do it yourself.

Let him eat all his food puke a few times. He'll eventually learn to not eat so much. That is, if you don't go back and feed him after he pukes. If he misses a meal because he threw it up, so be it. I promise you, he won't starve to death or anything.

yeah, that definately doesn't work on my dog. she's figured out how to open the door to the pantry where we keep her food, chew a hole in the bad, and then fuckin' gorge herself. we don't feed her after obviously, even if she pukes (which she usually does), but she still does it if we ever forget to leave the pantry door unlocked.

Then...perhaps your dog has a glandular problem? Or you should find somewhere else to store her food? Like in a high up, out-of-the way place, such as on top of the refrigerator?

I dunno lol.

Cats dont need a constant supply of food. Just feed him once when you get up, then again when you get in, in the evening. My cats have been perfectly happy with this arragement for their whole lives.

ever tried using some duct tape to hold the feeder shut?

Dogs will gorge themselves, always. Even when they aren't hungry they'll eat.
i forgetted why but i've read it in a few books.

In the wild, pack carnivores like wolves will often make a big kill only every few days or so. They eat as much as they can fit in because they don't know when the next meal is coming.

Dogs are very different than wolves and not all of them will eat until they are sick. Certain breeds are prone to overeating, particularly sporting dogs or other high energy dogs that do not get enough chances to run around. If a sporting dog gets plenty of high speed exercise, he will actually eat less and slim down.

As for overeating cats, I dunno, but people tend to overeat when they aren't busy, so try finding something for your cat to do.

No, last time he totally messed up and I missed my chance at a big refund. I do them myself now.

Not all dogs gorge themselfs. Certain breeds have been known to, but it varies from dog to dog. I have a large mixed breed that only eats as mich as she feels like. If she does not run around a lot, she hardly eats any of her food.

Feed him in the morning then again at night, that's all, no auto feeders.
