The water was rising, and the scorpion said to the fox, 'let me ride on your back and carry me across the water', 'no,' said the fox, 'once you are on my back you will sting me', but the scorpion replied, 'if I do so, then we will surely both drown.'. Reluctantly, the fox carried the scorpion on its back, and started swimming across the water. Halfway through, it felt a pain on it's back and went paralyzed. The fox asked the scorpion, 'Why did you sting me? Now we will both perish.'; the scorpion replied, 'I can't help it. It is my nature.'.
