ROCK LOBSTER! AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o
Sup /an/,

I got my Crayfish tank going finally, thought I'd show you guys some pics for the hell of it, you did help me out a lot in the past so yeah.

I used the idea some guy had a while back of using a foam background as a part of the substrate. Seeing as it had a cave in it, with a foamless bottom, I thought it would be cool to put it under the gravel and use that empty spot as a window into the cave. And of course, I put gravel over most of the foam and it seems to have worked out so far.

Here's a pic of the tank right now. It's a basic 10gal with an Aquaclear 50gal capacity filter. I got the skull and the root to use as nice hiding spots to go along with the cave. A blue crayfish and a regular brown crayfish inhabit the tank along with a small convict cichlid.

I'll post more pics in a sec.

Here's the blue crayfish, I named him Rock Lobster.

Here's the brown one, he's about the same size if not slightly larger than the blue one.

His name is Magicarp.

Also, Rock Lobster just molted for the first time in my tank. I thought that was pretty rad so I thought I'd show you guys.

He's toying with his "former self" right now, probably going to eat it sooner or later.

Also, just a quick question pertaining to this, wondering if anybody knows.

Are they very vulnerable after they shed? As far as their new shell goes for armor and what not? I sealed up the cave with the other crayfish inside it so that he wouldn't bother the blue one, just for tonight, but I just wanted to know for sure if Rock Lobster's good to go or if he needs some time to break into his new shell so to speak.

It's not like it matters. The other one could only use splash on Rock lobster, and you know how that turns out.

Wow, you pick faggoty names for your pets.

Oh shit, I'm sorry, I'm not as creative as you are. Obviously, I'm not serious enough to be on 4chan. No, no way am I mature enough. 21 is far too young to visit this mature website, how could I possibly understand the concept of mudkips at my age?
>> Anonymous
>>206392
Yet you feel the need to have a name. Get past that need to stand out and be special and drop that faggy tripcode and name.

"Prime," like you're better than everyone, and that attitude too. You may be overage, but you're still too immature for 4chan.

COOL DAWG.

I used my google-fu, and apparently crayfish are vulnerable after they molt. I'm not sure what the best method would be to separate your newly molted friend from everyone else. Perhaps a guppy breeding net (pictured) would do the trick? Or a plastic one so the crayfish couldn't climb out of it. Even a simple tank divider might do the trick.

Maybe another Anon can yea/nay this.
>> Anonymous
it's cool, I named my fish norman.

they are vulnerable, but I'm not sure for how long or if the other poses a threat
>> AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o
>>206397
Should've thought of that, thanks.

>>206396
Do we really have to get into this? "Oh damn, that guy's a dick on the internet because he's being himself. SHIT HE'S GOT A TRIPCODE, GET HIM!"

I'm a tripfag because even though it's convenient to talk shit under the net of Anonymous, I prefer to take the uncowardly way out and take responsibility for what I say on the internet. I'm not trying to stand out, I'm just not using the crutch of Anonymous so if I say something stupid I don't have to worry about it. If you don't like my "attitude", then you're probably overly sensitive and need some counciling. If you can't deal with that, gb2/b/.

No, 21 is too old to be naming things after pokemon characters.

Ok, ya know what. I feel bad that you're a 21-year-old pokemon fan. Obviosly you're life is less than spectacular. But seriously, I think your crayfish are cool, they just have stupid names.

Lol okay fair enough.

Your tank looks rather shitty with that skull. But I guess it should be expected from you, seen as you named your crayfish after pokemons.
>> AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o
>>206412
While the skull does seem cliche, and the bottom part of the jaw, which is over an inch tall, is a pretty good hiding spot. The crayfish take turns hiding in it and even the Convict likes it.

Whether it's shitty or not it served its purpose.

Resident tripfag weighing in:

The usage of the tripcode is not to make us feel superior. It is the fin on the back of the shark. The DUN DUN DUN before the murderer is revealed. The tripcode is main screen turn on, YOU HAVE NO CHANCE TO SURVIVE, MAKE YOUR TIME. It is for your protection, not ours.

Oh shit, wait, he named his crawfish "magicarp"? Nevermind, thats too faggy for even me to support.

Nice skull though.
>> AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o
Alright fine, geez, since no one seems to like the name I gave it, what would you guys name it then?

I just got it the other day for a buck. I only bought it to test some parameters in my main tank and I didn't even put any real thought into naming it.
>> Anonymous
shoulda named it sea king instead of magicarp
>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
>>206417
Biscuit. Obviously.
>> AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o
>>206420
Funny, I already named my old Pleco that.
>> Anonymous
Blue crayfish looks awesome. Nothing wrong with the names either, at least you have a sense of humor.
>> AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o
>>206422
Well I really didn't even put any thought into naming the brown one when I usually do.

It had a reddish brown color and the first thing I thought of was Magicarp.

They should all be named biscuit.
>> Anonymous
out of interest where is the entrance to the cave?
>> AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o
>>206437
If you look at my first pic, it's on the blue crayfish's left, he's kind of in the way.

The brown crayfish was trying to get out but I put an old rubber suction cup over the cave entrance so that he wouldn't get out bother the blue one while he was molting.

If you like your damned pokemon names, then why care what these whores think? I know you wanted to have a nice thread and just discuss this stuff like a normal person, but people on 4chan will use any excuse to whine like preteen dramaqueens.

Anyway, I don't know much about this stuff since I've never bothered with anything requiring a tank, but if those little guys are happy with the setup then that's all that matters.

>> AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o

Well the point was I didn't really care in the first place about the name. And since people bitched I asked what I should name it instead of Magicarp.

Where the hell exactly did I write that I love fucking pokemon so much? I haven't even touched a fucking pokemon game in like 4 years.

Yeah sure, hang on let me get it for you.

i have a crayfoosh too

he's slightly bigger than he was in this picture
>> Anonymous
you really should only have one to a tank, but some people keep tons of them in one big tank

with enough places to hide they won't fight as much

be sure to have a good lid, and check they are still in the tank every morning

crays are notorious escape artists

enjoy your pets, they have a lot of personality and are extremely intelligent, especially considering they are invertebrates

Yeah see, originally I was only going to have the one blue crayfish. However, I was curious to see how he would do in my main tank with the two Bichirs, the Pleco, and the Gar that I have.

I didn't think it would work out at all, but I tried it anyway.

I bought a cheap feeder Crayfish and put it in to see what would happen. He actually did well at first, he kept his distance from the other fish and vice versa - EXCEPT for my highly curious and active Senegal Bichir, who would keep directly in front of the crayfish, curled and ready to strike, just daring it to do something so I ended up taking him out.

I ended up just putting him in with the other blue crayfish, figuring I had enough hiding places for both of them. They've been fine but occasionally they'll find each other and scuffle so sooner or later I'm going to get rid of the brown one.

Oh yeah I definitely have a lid, I have one of those heavy glass lids with a tiny opening for outake filter water.

I'm surprised... Last time some one said Crayfish it became this huge thing with people arguing about what they were called. Crayfish, crawfish, crawdad, or crawdaddy.

Also, cool skull. If the critters like it, that is all that really matters.
>> AnonymousPrime !/RDa1B/y1o
>>206662
Yeah, they have a lot of names.

Most of them come from people that cook them.
