Hey, so my girlfriend found a baby rabbit. Estimated about a week old.

Halp?

I was mowing the lawn and I think I either stepped on or rolled over one. I heard it crying and moved it over to a shed where all the rabbits live under then when it crawled away it only crawled using it's front paws and it's back paws were dangling limp behind it.

OP: Yeah, that really helps, asshole. gb2/b/.

Also, vet won't be open 'till tomorrow.

You know, one time someone brought in a bunny at about the same age. It didn't really do anything but poop. No water was gone, nor was the food. I think the best thing you can do is let it go into an open field. :/

Though, if you really wanted to try keeping it, someone also said that it was old enough to eat solid food. So just go out to the pet store and buy some bunny food/timothy hay and a little water bottle that you hang from a cage and try that. :)

I hope it ends up all right for you.

feed it, let it grow, then turn it into a rabbit pie. Yummy...

OP: The bunny in the picture is not the one we found. The one we found doesn't even have its eyes open yet. Letting it go in a field is a death sentence, as said girlfriend found it in a nest with its slaughtered siblings.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like a very good fate if his eyes are not open yet. Best you can do is provide goat milk and warmth at this point and hope it works. The mother's nest consist of straw/hay and fur. So a warm towel works great.

You don't have a girlfriend. Enjoy your rabbit.

for the love of god, make sure you use SOY baby formula. lactose is death for them

OP: Oh shit...
>> Anonymous
you should be able to get packets of soy formula at the grocery store for fairly cheap
>> Anonymous
I'd reccomend heading to a pet store and buying the formula they sell for baby puppies. Mix some of that up and give it to the rabbit with an eyedropper.

You're going to have to be feeding it pretty regularly, so keep that in mind. Also, the previous suggestion of keeping it warm is good. A hot water bottle or a toasty lamp or any heat source will probably work, just make sure it's warm, not *hot*.

A friend of mine successfully brought up a baby bunny, so I know it can be done.

OP: Taking it to a vet/shelter place in the morning. They can care for it better than we can.

I hope my ducklings pull through too... Their mother left them when I was in the garden one morning, didn't come back two days later, they were almost dead when I brought them in and gave them some chick feed and put them under a lamp.

They'll live now, imprinted with the mom though so they won't be good egg layers, I think I'll release the ducks and have some drake meat for the freezer.

This is the girlfriend of the OP. I was feeding it lactose free baby formula last night and woke up every three hours to check on it.

I named it Toby. Yeah, after the joke/scam website of savetoby.com

When I woke up I went to the vet and dropped him off. They said he had a 50/50 chance of surviving but they said I did everything right.

Pic related. It's Toby!! :3

Just lost.

i really hope the bunny will be okay :O)

Another suggestion for milk is to find a lactating mother rabbit (my suggestion is find a rabbit breeder) and see if she will nurse an orphan. It actually works fairly well. When i raised them one mother would neglect all but 4 of her kits and so I had to move the others onto another doe with a smaller litter but was full and ready to nurse.

OP's girlfriend again! I called the vet about an hour ago and they said Toby's a strong little guy and will soon open his eyes. We're pretty sure he's gonna live.

Why don't you go rescue an endangered species instead of perpetuating the overpopulation of these vermin?

The bunny might die.

If I had not done anything I'd have never forgiven myself. I know it is the way of nature but if it's within my power to save something then don't think I won't try to save it. :) I think it would also be along the lines of cruelty to animals through depraved indifference.

Also, there aren't a lot bunnies over here to consider them vermin.
