I looked up "Kangaroo Mouse" on Google, got "Kangaroo Rat." If you look at them, they look really similar. Maybe that's the species?

But, I believe he does have hands.... paws. Just tucked away. Cute little guy....

kangaroo rats, there used to be a lot of em in the cornfields next to where i lived in Arizona. they'd get trapped in my garage every now and then and would run away as soon as you'd open it up again.

it's all covered in houses and a mall now and shit ain't what it used to be.

OP's pic is a jerboa. i used to have two when i was young, but the female got an infection and we had to put her to sleep.
i think the male died of a broken heart ;_;
he wouldnt eat after she died.
they were awesome pets, tons of fun. i loved to let them out of their tank and run around the house with them. they could jump like four feet in the air.

they came from africa, but theres some law against importing species now (something about monkey pox) and now i cant find anyone that breeds these guys domestically. i'd love to get another pair, so if anyone has more info, plz post

Are these guys like Kangaroo rats in that they don't need water?
Kangaroo rats are so awesome. They get 98% of their water from metabolism. The other 2% is from the food that they eat.

well i had one of the little hamster kind of waterers in their cage, you know with the little ball...etc and they used it. maybe its one of those things like, they CAN go without drinking, but will drink if water is available? dunno.
seriously though, these things were so fucking awesome. i wish i could find a breeder in the US so bad lol. they used to chase after my cat and jump on her, fucking priceless
