help me I'am 23 /an/ my friend invited me to go camping in the forest. I have never experienced anything in the wild let alone a park. Rather, I can't think even if I have ever been outside of my state county. What things do I need to go camping i.e. backpacks blankets what brands do you prefer? How do you go to the bathroom in the wild do you bury your shit or burn it? Do they have portable potties in the camp grounds? please help me out I really want to do this!!

* Bring your warmest sleeping bag, and some extra blankets, and expect to sleep in a sweater and some sweatpants. No matter where you live, it WILL get really cold at night, considering it's winter.

* Campgrounds usually have port-a-pottys, but bring your own toilet paper. If there are no bathrooms around, bury your business.

* Don't forget bug spray.

* Bring a broom. Seriously. You will need it to sweep out rubble from underneath the spot where you will set a tent up, and you will need it to sweep out your tent when rocks and dirt get tracked in. Make sure that the place you put your tent is flat, and has no rocks. Nothing worse than sleeping at a slight angle with jagged rocks poking you from beneath the canvas.

* Bring newspaper to get your fire started.

* Wear hats to avoid ticks and sunburn.

* Keep your [nonperishable] food tightly sealed and out of the sun. Leave it in the car or something.

* If you meet a bear in the woods, and it sees you, keep yourself low (duck your head, bend your back), talk very softly and calmly, make a show of avoiding eye contact, and back away slowly. It is only when the bear attacks that you play dead. DON'T RUN, and if you're gonna climb a tree, climb as far as you can go, most bears can climb rather high.

It's known that if you get attacked by a bear that you should play dead. It saved this guy's life one time.
