Looks to be cotton candy.

no worries, they are just from a small hole in the leaves and trunk (probably because of rooty wasps). when the tree sap comes to the surfae it slowly dries and on a maple tree it causes this effect after one layer has dried and another has pushed it up etc. they are perfectly harmless and are often recommended in dieting books because tree sap contains nearly 0 calories and because they have a unique sweet taste.

no sorry, but i found that most organic diet books have this stuff in em (unlike all the other weird ones out there that try and get u to drink ur weight in slimming milkshake everyday, what does your own weight in milkshake do...make u fatter), i think its called maple balls or summin but sorry i cant be sure, (im thin now so have no need of get slim quick diets). sorry i cant be of more help.

like i said in my previous posts im sorry the explanation probably has no use without name, the only reason i knew name was because of a local weight loss group i attended

well unless i hear otherwise i'll beleive u....but you eat one first ok?

I think those are oak leaves you have there, not maple, judging by how its lobed....as for the fuzzy things, I am not sure. I had a class that covered horticultural pests and such...and i never saw anything like that (though the class mostly covered alot of local pests). Ive seen something similar to that i THINK on my own trees at home...but its nowhere near that big. Im rather interested to find out what it is myself now!

Jury is in. It is indeed the gall wasp's doing. But I've never seen a gall that looked like that. But i'll certainly not doubt the words of a botonist.
