Hey /an/, how do you get parakeets to eat vegetables? My birds (pic related) only eat seed.

By the way, are they supposed to look this small?

give them toys if you haven't.
Im not sure about the veges, if they are tame, showing interest and excitement to the vegatbles might help, if they are not tame, I have no idea.
There also pellets available, which have minerals, vitamins etc, a bird shouldnt be fed just seed. the ones you buy are dried and have little nutrition. soaking and sprouting seeds are alot better for them.

There are 2 kinds of budgies, american parakeets and english budgies, english budgies are for showing and are bigger then american parakeets, but they are exactly the same besides size.

www.birdchannel.com
and
www.theperch.net

are good websites about birds and are very friendly, you'll have better luck asking there.

I've tried taming them for months, but I figured its no use since they only like each other.

Thanks for the links.

eat the vegetables in front of them

many birds won't touch something until they see someone else eat it

They look very like common, garden varety budgies to me. I've kept budgies before and they tend to be very picky about what they eat. Individuals tend to go for different things. I had one who'd eat apples, but every single one I've had has loved spinach. If you're worried about lack of fresh food, go outside and pick some green grass seed heads.

Budgies have a tendency to come in two flavours: small and close to their size in the wild, and somewhat larger, which is the result of an extended breeding programme by humans.

As far as being social goes, sometimes you'll get a friendly and tame budgie, but generally not. The chances of getting a tame one are higher if you select a male. Said chances utterly disappear if you keep them in pairs because they'll only love each other and you'll be nothing more than a welcome feeder.

Budgies LOVE veggies and fruits. Introduce it to them slowly so they dont get runny poo.

Budgies love Groundsel! (http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/groundsel.htm)

I never tried mine on too many kitchen vegetables, but they went absolutely bonkers for celery.

Budgies also love cats, don't let them near them at all cost!

hmm, my budgie loved to eat black bread and noodle salad. But he hated carrots.
And loved bananas, apples, green salad and cucumbers. And green peas.
Oh and cheese. He went mad when I went into the room holding a slice of bread in my hand with some cheese on top of it.

I have owned budgies for a few years now and they've always seemed happiest by themselves.

I got a new one yesterday because a few days earlier, the male had died. They're not fighting as much (although she was quite mean to him when he was trying to eat) but they've yet to bond yet.

Any tips?
Previously, all the budgies I've owned were content just to be with each other, without human contact really, but I'm worried this new guy may be different (he seems to respond to talking and whistling) but I'm not sure what to do.

the first year I had my current budgie, she was pretty picky and scared of new thing, but this is the second year I've owned her and she is pretty much constantly following me around and climbing onto my hands/plates to eat or inspect whatever I have

you've probably heard it before, but the best way to introduce something is to bring it near them and show some kind of interest or enjoyment with it and they will start to approach it more until they are satisfied it's not dangerous

also, be ready to clean up after them a lot if it's not being given to them in their cage. my bird loves apples, but only the juice. she tends to take bites, get the juice, and spit out the remains as if it were a seed
