i fostered 2 house sparrows...i fed them wet dog wood with a tiny of of water...room temp. then i moved on to different foods like cherrys, mleaworms (crush mealworms heads), bread, seeds, etc. i kept them next to a window and put bread outside so my birds could observe other sparrows. i got a small cage for them and eventually started leaving them outside in the cage with food around so they can interact better with thier own kind and mimic the other birds. at night i brought them back but before you release them try letting them sleep outside in the cage so they get use to the weather outside. you can release them when they can fly pretty well and loose the yellow on the sides of thier beaks...good luck!
