No-kill shelters are terrible. There are certain animals that SHOULD be put to sleep. I've ranted on this in many threads and won't do it again, so I shall sum up:

Many "no-kill" shelters do not take good care of their animals. The majority are run by animal hoarders or scam artists. Responsible shelters kill animals that have no quality of life left.

Yes, some PETA funded/run shelters kill animals that could be adopted. I think it's absolutely horrific. But the average PETA member thinks it's terrible too.
>> Anonymous
>>147003
And just to add, a lot of "no-kills" are liars. I worked at a kill shelter and there were several instances when people from no-kill shelters would drop off animals with us for us to put them down for them.
>> Anonymous
if peta were a person id slice there head off and rape there asauphagus
>> Anonymous
>>147003

No-kill shelters also stop accepting animals when they're full, and charge a ridiculous amount of money to leave them there. They cause more people to go to kill shelters or just kill the animals themselves because they get filled up and turn away potentially adoptable animals.
>> Bitter Anon !!WJLRQ1cwCyZ
>>147035
A lot of no-kill shelters DONT stop accepting animals. That is the problem. Many are funded through nonprofit organizations that give them money based upon the amount of animals they take care of. The good ones do as you say, but that is hardly the norm.

The concept of a no-kill shelter, much like the concept of PETA, is great. When real people start to do it is when there are problems.

Oh gawd, PeTA's a fucking cult that brainwashes young, ignorant, idealistic kids and makes them become total sociopaths.

They know their bullshit story won't be fed into an educated adult, so what they do is they target little tweens and early teens, little kids from ages 11 to 14. Feed them bullshit stories about animals and farming that is just not true.

I have nothing to say about what goes in the US because I don't live there, but seriously, anyone who knows farm folk in Australia know PETA's totally out of touch with reality.

Most of their activism is a hit-and-miss thing. For example, they don't like to talk about the time when they released minks out of mink farms, and the minks did what they wanted to do - rape the British countryside.

My youngest sister decided to go vegan when she entered college (a very short-lived decision...the vegan thing, not college).
Anyway, when she tried to make a big show of it, I asked her about what should we do with all the farm animals?
And she simply said "LET THEM LIVE!"
I retorted, "So we let them live and grow and multiply, so they cost MORE money for upkeep and housing, and if they start mating, we have to take care of THOSE, etc. etc.
>>OR<<
We let them loose, so they run amok like the wild pigs in Hawaii or the feral donkeys in the Grand Canyon, or other out-of-place animals
which screw up the already-in-place ecosysytems, and make a bad situation even worse???"
She had no comment for that one, and less than a month later quit veganism all together.
>> Anonymous
>>147230
Your sister fucking fails.

Even vegans realize that just letting the animals live is fucking pointless and wastes food resources that could be used to feed people. Best to just stop breeding them seeing as they really have no sustainable purpose.
>> Anonymous
>>147266
Exactly, there's only huge numbers of them because we keep breeding them

People who are vegetarian because they feel sorry for the animals are fucking idiots anyway. Unless you're growing your own vegetables in your yard you're killing animals in one way or another.
>> Anonymous
>>147268
So if you have to kill one animal to sustain yourself, you might as well kill ten/one hundred/one thousand? People realize that they can't stop the world from eating animals, but reducing the demand reduces the frequency. That's what it's about. Looking at vegeterianism with such an extreme view is no different from the way ecological terrorists justify their actions.

My grandmother lived next door to neighbours whose pigs ate their baby, and they found the skull in the muck heap. They beat the pigs to death, if I remember correctly.

Chickens would not even hesistate to peck at its own eggshell that it just laid and devour the egg within, in fact this is the #1 loss of income in egg farms, especially the free-range ones where egg collection is not automated.

And obviously, you haven't seen cows eat chickens.

Even domesticated animals will eat their dead owner's corpse.

What in the world makes you assume that just because it eats plant material, it is not strong and vicious?

Next time a Vegan or PETA stand pops up get some friends to help setup a booth advocating plant rights. Argue on how people tortue grass and plants with weekly prunings, trying to raise them in hostile enviroments, and spraying the unwanted ones with extremely toxic poisons. Then pour salt on the wound by stating they do it all to living beings that can not move their roots and slowly move a limb/branch if lucky. Also make it known it may take the plants hundreds if not thousands of generations to develop poisons and thorns to fight back with. Finally pull there own hypocritism back in there face and see if they recognize it by say this is just what they do to domestic plants, and everyone does not even want to know what they do to wild/feral plants.

I always wondered why non-vegfags are so opposed to the existence of vegfags. Their lifestyle does not affect you in any way, but you're still quick to jump all over them like Chris Hansen on a child molester.

I'd chalk it up to plain old ethnocentrism, but it's always talk and no action, which is not in keeping with american ethnocentric traditions. Is it guilt? Shame? Fear of not having the moral high ground (which does not exist and neither side has)?

If that were true, I'd agree with you 100%!

If you want to be a vegetarian/vegan, that's fine! It's your life & body--make your own decisions. I have nothing against people who follow vegetarian/vegan diets. I don't belive what they are doing is founded in logic or fact, but that doesn't matter. They still have the right to do as they please with their bodies.

HOWEVER, what bothers me personally is when vegetarians/vegans (or anyone else for that matter) creates some kind of agenda and tries to force it upon others, for example, PETA and ALF and such.

I will never tell you what to do with your life. And by the same token, I expect that you will never tell ME what to do with mine.

it's different with plants because they have no nervous system, so they can't feel or suffer being eaten or plucked.

The "plants have feelings, too" argument is kind of lame. Yes, plants probably have some sort of sensory capabilities and would rather not be eaten. But consider this--if you eat a cow, that cow had to eat plants (mostly corn, the same kind we eat) all its life, just so people could eat the cow. You're essentially causing far more stuff to die by raising cattle in the first place.

I'm not arguing that eating meat is wrong to do, but I want to point out that one little bit because I haven't seen anyone mention that in this thread.

Putting the moral aspect of eating animal aside:

meat consuptian, at least the way it's happening in the western countries is unhealthy and economically and ecologically damaging.

So if you don;t agree with "i don't want to hurt an animal", think about the damage your meat consumption does to your health, the environment and your and other countries' economy.

Meat consumption is extremely healthy. I eat often moose and cow meat, and have left pork completely out. Those two have almost no fat. My plate consists of 50% weggies too.

Never felt better. And I get to kill my own food!
>> Anonymous
>>148135

Chimpanzees, bonobos, and gorillas eat meat to supplement their diet. Many species of monkeys, especially baboons, eat meat. Humans, being primates, have evolved this way as well. Increased consumption of meat was one of the factors that allowed us to become so intelligent, as meat contains nutrients beneficial to brain function. Our digestive systems are much more suited to processing meat, not plants. Vegetarians and vegans have to take pills every day to get the meat-specific nutrients, especially the several amino acids that are not in plants and we cannot create ourselves. While we cannot digest the fibers and cell walls of plants, they give a lot of the vitamins and minerals directly rather than the diminished amounts in animals, and it helps keep your bowels running smoothly. Humans are omnivores.

If by the economical and environmental damage damages you mean how vast herds of cows and sheep eat everything in sight and cause erosion and force out wild animals, then you're right. But the US and some other countries have gotten better at that, with designated areas for livestock to graze. The meat industry is a multi-billion dollar industry. It would hurt economically to not have it.

As for eating meat is unhealthy... well, ANYTHING is unhealthy if you eat a lot of it and don't exercise to burn off the calories and fat and whatnot. I could eat nothing but McDonalds for the rest of my life, but as long as I exercise routinely I'm not gonna turn into Shamu. It's a shame how people have to throw blame everywhere to make themselves feel better about their problems. "Oh God, I'm getting teh fat! Meat has fat, so it's horrible and unhealthy!" while the person sits on the couch watching TV all day, getting up only to use the bathroom and get food and drink.

Meat = good. Fat = good. Too much of either = bad. Exercise = good.
