I really want to own a pet hedgehog, but I don't know if they're legal in Australia, or where I should start looking for one.Are any of you owners/past owners? Are they hard to take care of? Do they take up a lot of your time?
They are easier to take care of than guinea pigs. They aren't exactly friendly though. You probably can't own one in Australia. They seem like the kind of animal that would do too well out in the wild there if they ever got loose somehow. Why don't you get one of the many smallish marsupial species you have there, and keep it for a pet?
I had one when I was tiny. It was pretty cute. Snuggly, for how prickly it looks. It liked to hang out in oven mitts. :3

not allowed in Australia, pest species in NZtl;dr: move to NZ and catch one.
Easy rule of thumb for pet legality in Australia:Have I ever heard of anyone in Australia owning one? If no, animal is not legal to keep as a pet.Works for hedgehogs, chinchillas, hamsters, gerbils, lions, katamari, tigers...
