To bury a dog... Anonymous
A friend of my mom has a black collie of about 15 yrs that she has to have put to sleep. Her lazy-ass husband won't go outside and dig a hole to bury the dog, so I volunteered to do so.
So how deep of a hole should I dig to bury a medium sized dog in? I've never done this before. I don't want to dig a six foot deep hole, but I don't want anything digging up the poor dog either.

well, i think a few feet should do it. I cant recall ever seeing a neighborhood animal digging a hole much bigger than that.

This is out in the piney woods, not in a neighborhood, there's wild animals around

Carion eating animals will dig fairly deep to get to a "fresh" meal. If you are going to dig only 3 feet deep, please place heavy (atleast 20 pound) rocks on top of the burial site to insure that they cant get to it.

also applying sulfur to the dearly departed well keep the creepy crawlies away.

And avoid ancient Indian burial grounds.

you could save yourself some effort by just burning it and say you buried it.

You could also buy a new dog, but that won't help you with your burial problem.

That would extra not solve this question, because it's not my dog.
Interesting story about the dog I have to bury:
The lady that owns him breeds tiny shelties, she originally wanted to breed collies, so she got him as a stud. Turns out he was shooting blanks, and couldn't be bred. So they just kept him around as a regular dog. He's about 17, I think.

It works out if you feed the old dog to the new dog.
