Sup /an/archy.

My cat has never really likes drinking out of bowls.

He will drink out of the toilet and the sink sometimes.

He recently has been sucking fluids from his own nipples on his stomache.

I would like for this to stop.

Is there any way I can get my cat to switch from toilets and tits to drinking out of a dish like NORMAL cats?

Normal cats prefer drinking out of toilets and sinks to bowls. Years of evolution have them thinking that running water is good and still water is bad.

You might try one of those fountain bowls. And not letting your cat in the bathroom.

Hehehe... he is being a normal cat! Many, many cats prefer fresh, running water. I recommend buying him a cat fountain. You get them online for like $25 or less.

Hmm fountian bowls? As in moving water?

Any pics or links?

I was also thinking about getting him mabe a condensation tower, since he loves to link condensation off of cups.

Found this one at Amazon.com
Also, sounds like your cat may have been weaned too early.

Also, how about keeping the toilet seat lid down. That tends to discourage cats from trying to drink there.

My cat never drinks out of his own bowl, he always drank out of the dog's bowl (which is on a raised-stand-deal.) He actually bothers to get up on his hind legs just to drink out of a giant bowl. What the shit.

If both your animals are drinking out of the same bowl, do you even bother keeping the cat bowl around?

....................

I'm pretty sure it's not normal for male cats to lactate.

Not anymore. After about a week we just went "shit, this has no purpose" and tossed it.

If a male cat was not weaned properly, sometimes they'll suckle their own nipples. Nothing should be coming out though...it's hard to get them to stop sucking on things if they've been weaned improperly. They'll also do it to clothing, blankets...people...LOL

Actually, if it keeps suckling itself for long enough, it's theoretically possible it could cause its prolactin levels to rise to the point that it will start lactating. Even males can lactate, it's just not usual.

Cool. Applying that principle, do you think if I started sucking on my bf's nipples long enough, he may lactate?

If he sucks on your nipples long enough, you will lactate, even if you're not pregnant.

But I don't want to lactate! I want HIM to!

Yeah he will, more and more hippy dads are deciding they want to be part of the nurturing process of breastfeeding, so are making themselves lactate when they have kids

Get a cat fountain. You can find them at any pet store, walmart, kmart, target, etc. They aren't that expensive, and they encourage cats to drink. Cats get dehydrated way too easily, so you need to make sure your cat drinks enough water. The fountain will keep the water moving, therefore it won't get stale. It also makes the cat go "ooh o.o what's this?" and drink out of it more willingly. My younger cat always drinks out of the fish tank because of the running water. (and maybe she likes the fishy taste, i dunno)
