I came home tonight from doing laundry and noticed my cat was hiding in the closet, acting kind of funny. He wasn't coming to my calls or anything.

I had to put my child down to bed, and so about 10-15 minutes after I'd gotten in I went into the bathroom to run the bath and spotted a few spots of blood on the floor, and my cat sitting behind the toilet licking the blood on the ground. Upon further inspection I saw blood was flowing at a steady pace from his neck, but he wouldn't let me close enough to examine it.

It's been about two hours and he's been bleeding all over the house. I don't have the money, let alone the heart to put him down right now, and there are no vets open anywhere close to me.

So /an/, I've made him a nice bed in a box, given him a cup of milk as he can't eat solids right now, and made a make-shift bandage. Is there anything else you can suggest I do for him? I love this cat dearly and I'm really at a loss as to what to do. I'll post more pictures as time passes.

That's crazy...

It's good to know that his neck is all bandaged up so the bleeding will hopefully stop.

Just let it rest and first thing tomorrow morning, bring it to the vet. I hope you have insurance.
How bad was it?

why is he bleeding? is it a gash?

I've got no idea how bad it is or even what is going on with him. The only thing I can think of is that I broke a glass in the kitchen the other day and it's possible he may have swallowed a piece...

And no, I don't have any insurance at all, I'm on mother's allowance.

To everyone saging, you're idiots.

To everyone else responding who isn't 13 years old, this is the cat now. He's pretty fucked up and is not moving much. I don't really know what to do to make him feel better.

Fuck that.

I'm trying to just make him feel okay for now...
>> Anonymous
Don't think you can really do much more to helphim now. Try blending a can of tuna fish(In their own juices not oil) for food since he really is going to need some solids.

>>209305
I've got mushy cat food I'm going to try that, I'll update soon.

It's obviously not arterial or he would be dead already. It's probably not a major vein (i.e. jugular) because again, he would be dead already.

Just in case, you should bandage it with something occlusive. Plastic wrap would work. It will prevent air from entering any open vessels, which could cause an embolism. Be sure that any bandage you apply doesn't go all the way around his neck because even if it's not too tight now, his neck will swell and it will get tighter. Bandage on one side and use strong tape. You can always cut the hair off later if he survives. Don't put any neosporin, first aid cream, or any other crap on it- it will prevent clotting and slow healing.

Provided it's just an external cut, the bleeding stops, and he doesn't get an infection, there's a pretty good chance he could survive it.

For now, work on a good bandage and supportive care. The best thing for him at this point is fluids, either plain water or water with a very small amount of salt dissolved in in (probably about 1 tsp per liter). He could also probably use a glucose supplement every few hours. An easy way to do that is put a small amount of honey in the pocket between his cheek and teeth and let it dissolve there if he can't eat it.

>>209305
>>209307
Do NOT give him solid food. He doesn't need it, and it could make things worse. Just stick with fluids and sugar for now, if he's doing better tomorrow then consider soft solids.

>>209304The only place I found open wanted over 150 dollars to put him to sleep, or around 200+ just to see him and diagnose him.

OP is a cheap bastard who'll let his cat bleed to death before he shells out a few hundred to save it. Or he's a troll. SAGE.

That looks pretty serious. I'd take him ASAP to a emergency cat clinic, Tell them you can't afford to pay right now. I highly doubt they will turn him away without at least helping him some. Remember, most people there are pet lovers. At the very least they would bill you at a later date.

And I think it is but I've already called and they said they won't even look at him without 130 up front, then they can set me up with a "Medi-card", like a credit card for my cat's medical bills. I'm seriously considering this option but it's getting very late now and I think the bleeding is slowing down.

ENJOY YOUR 7 YEARS OF BAD LUCK BECAUSE OF A STUPID FUCKING CAT
>> Anonymous
Shit, that sucks. I'm sorry for you OP.
Can't you get a loan and go to the vet for an examination?

If not, just do what the other anons said and bandage the wound. I don't think he'd swallow glass and even if he did the shred couldn't have been so big as to cause that gap. Are you sure he wasn't injured by someone? Did you ask your kid if they saw anything?

I wouldn't hurry up to put the cat to sleep. I've cared for wounded cats before without going to the vet and they have amazing recovery abilities. I don't want to give you false hope though, but wait a day or two before deciding.

Keep us updated and most of all, keep close eyes on your cat.

You probably don't have to put the cat to sleep for a cut. First, you need to PUT A COLD COMPRESS ON THE WOUND for a bit because it clearly isn't clotting right. You should try local shelters and rescues to see if they can help with vet costs or provide low cost care. At the very least you can surrender the cat. They will fix it up and try to adopt it out. Do not euthanize your cat because you can't afford some stitches.

think of it this way, you can feed its corpse to the starving child, with a cup of milk as a side dish it would be great.
p.s. your cat is emo
>> Anonymous
Some vets will allow you to make payments. We had a dog that ended up dying but after all of the tests we owed $750. Try calling around.
>> Anonymous
>>209268
Right, right. Your cat is basically dying, and you decide to give it milk.

I'm sure your cat will enjoy his terrible, painful diarrhea whilst he bleeds to death.
>> Anonymous
OP if you're still here you might be able to save the cat if you bring it to a vet... although it might be too late now depending on how long it's been bleeding for. If the bleeding was very bad it would have died by now, so it's just a minor cut, noting serious. If it swallowed glass chances are it's still there. Put the cat in a kennel and bring it to a vet, they'll sedate and then stitch it up and the cat should be fine. Otherwise never get anymore animals you fucking cunt.

What to do to make him feel better? Take him to a vet, YOU FUCKING IDIOT!
If you can't afford it, there a plenty of vets who will understand that, letting you pay small amounts over time or help your animal for free.

God, if that cat goes down, I hope you die in a fire, or get your flesh whipped off - passion of the Christ - style.

The pictures seem real enough but it could be a theater major with too much free time... Seriously, who sees a cut on their cat's neck and immediately thinks "Oh, I think it's time we put him/her/it down"...

I bet the vets who answered the phone were like "Um, your cat just has a cut on it's neck, why are you asking me how much it costs for me to inject it with fun juice?"

Put duct tape over the wound, or superglue. This will essentially suture the wound. However, he looks like he's lost a lot of blood. BTW, it costs $10 for euthanasia.

Whether this story is real or fake, OP is 14 years old.

Who the fuck comes home to a wounded pet and thinks "I should take pictures of the blood, and post them online!"

Right now, I'm dirt poor, and if I wasn't I'd probably be a cat hoarder with the dozens of sweet, beautiful strays running around this neighborhood, but I don't because I know I couldn't afford the medical care. So I just have one which I keep in perfect health. I know better than to take an animal in if I can't afford to care for it.

Huh... didnt realize there were so many /b/tards in /an/ ... If you dont have the money to pay for a vet you dont hav the money. No one here knows anything about the OP, and the majority of you seem to be making snap decisions about them, their lifestyle, or their current situation. Yes, coming to /an/ was perhaps not the best decision, but at least she got some of the advice she needed. Along with a lot of badgering she really, really didn't. Personally I wish them, and their cat the best of luck, because sometimes the money simply isn't their, no matter how hard you try. For any number of reasons. I guess you just cant get away from /b/ in 4chan no matter where you go. Seeing as how there will likely be a shit storm, im not even going to stick around and read replies. Good night gentlemen. Enjoy your petty lulz and grow up. Fuck.

Does it give you all satisfaction to be such queefs to perfect strangers whom you know nothing about?

Does the simple notion of anonymity somehow give you permission to judge, to berate, degrade, and say things that you would never dream to say aloud?

Humans are such interesting and vile creatures. I find it hard to believe that you all are the descendants of great men like Lincoln and Einstein. (Note that I am using such notable figures in history so that your otherwise misguided minds can recognize their names.)

All of you: go out, get jobs, find love, support your families and get a life instead of sitting in front of a computer screen, reaching out to insult strangers whom you will never in your life encounter knowingly.

Stop being the reason that we as a species in nature should be shunned and shamed.

What's with the idiots who are complaining about the milk? Sure, SOME cats get diarrhea with milk, but plenty don't. I've been feeding my cat milk regularly his whole life and he's fine with it. Really, if nothing else he's just trying to make it feel better.

Note that he said he needs the money UPFRONT and he simply doesn't have it, therefore there's just nothing at all he can do. Putting the cat up for adoption is NOT as good an option as you idiots think. Chances are the cat will either be put to sleep, or it'll live in a tiny cage the rest of it's life and go insane. Honestly I'd rather let my cat die comfortably in my home if there was absolutely nothing I could do for it than to let it die in a cage with some strangers.

I have had many, many cats in my life, and I've dealt with their deaths before. I'm talking from experience here. And if you think it'll only cost $200, you're delusional. I brought in my cat once for an emergency urinary tract infection at 1am, to the ASPCA hospital. Even though we get the cheapest treatments and the poor cat died despite all the best care on earth, the bill was still $1,400.
