Here's my little man at 9 weeks old.

Personally I think they are really smart, a little clumsy and they do get carried away with their playing sometimes. Oddly enough he doesn't bark or growl a lot.

they just act like... people. my aunt had one and they make so much eye contact and do other little people-y things.. the barking at strangers gets a bit annoying, but they do make great guard dogs. i don't think many of them would ever actually attack someone, but they're scary enough to keep people from robbing your house or whatever.

OP here, that puppy is adorable! How much did it cost to adopt/buy? How much do they cost a month or so?

He was $450 and really all he has cost me so far has been puppy food and shots. I got him from a good breeder who had already got his eyes tacked when he was really little. He has doubled his size already and like someone else has already said, he acts like a little person. He puts all of his toys in his bed every night and always has eye contact with me.

A more recent picture of him.

Eyes tacked? This is going ot be my first pet larger then an iguana and my first dog ever. I'm kinda a n00b so explain this a little to me.

I has one.

They lost most of the folds as they get older. Mine has them on her back/tail now.

She's a great dog, very healthy, never had a serious health problem in 5-6 years. Never been the slighest bit hostile towards any person or animal. Barks when strangers come up to the house, but then acts all nice and goes up to get attention. Doesn't bark "a lot", just enough to let us know. Sometimes barks a lot at other dogs or coyotes a lot. Protects our cats from coyotes that used to eat them.

They don't train super fast, but she learned and remembers the few commands I stuck with to teach her. She's pretty willful, does her own thing.

Some people think of them as "fighting dogs" but really they're the calmest nicest dogs you can imagine. As far as I know they had to drug them to get them to fight.

I had one before also. It was usualy a nice dog until people visited. After we bought a 2nd dog she started attacking the new dog and later started biting my family so we had to put her down. Maybe I just got a grumpy one, but she was not very playfull, and just layed around mostly. Oh and Shar Peis have a tendency of causing people eyes to itch.

Never had those problems. Mine is kind of shy around some people, but never hostile. Other dogs love to attack her but she never fights back, I have to chase dogs off :\

Couldn't you have given her to a rescue? I'm sure they could've found her a single-dog home. Simple training could've prevented the biting.

Yeah right, cuz getting a no-kill shelter to take a pet is easy. They want to rescue animals, but not so its inconvenient for them (and then give people shit because they're giving up the animal, fucking hypocrites).

And the ones that'll take'em no-questions-asked usually aren't Maggie Fund shelters anyway, so will kill them when they get too many animals.

They tack the eyes cause if they don't it can cause infection, because most people don't clean the wrinkles properly.
