Like someone else already said, it sounds like it's a rose hair, and they're friendly and harmless for the most part.
Seriously, babysitting a tarantula is like babysitting a rock. Have your friend feed it before he goes, and you're fine. These things have slow metabolisms and don't need to eat all that frequently, like snakes. You only have to make sure they're hydrated, and that's easy enough to solve just by making sure whatever it's waterer is full enough.
Sickness and the like, just watch to make sure that its legs don't start curling under, like how regular spiders and insects do when they're dead. And them doing that might just mean they're dehydrated.
You don't have to handle it. (And shouldn't have to, seriously, don't PET a tarantula, their fuzz is their weapon,) And if you're so worked up about it getting loose, just put some strips of tape over the door of the cage until your friend gets back.
There, problems solved. Enjoy your babysitting!
