so, i was just getting ready to go to bed when i hear my cat making a racket in the kitchen.... he comes running in with a little brown mouse in his mouth. the poor little thing was squeeking and my cat was just fucking with it.
i finally managed to catch the mouse in a cardboard box. when i opened it the thing was dead- it got a fang to the neck ;.;

TL:DR stories about things our cats have killed.
>> Anonymous
Well cats are predators, what did you expect?

My old cat used to catch mice and bring them back to me, kind of like an offering or token.

R.I.P.

Our old cat used to bring live mice home and then they'd get loose in the house. I was petsitting a little bit ago and I was thinking that I hadn't seen one of the cats(pictured) all day and as I was walking by the front door to leave I saw her through the window on the front porch so I opened the door and she was eating a mouse so I left her outside to do that. She left the mouses face and what looked like an organ.
>> Anonymous
Are all your cats female? Because we have a male and a female, and only the female brings us any "offerings". I guess it's treating us as its kittens and trying to teach us hunt...
>> Anonymous
My cat once killed a shrew and a cricket that had both gotten into the house in the same night. The shrew was normal-sized for a shrew. So was the cricket.
>> Anonymous
my cats have caught a few mice before. i live in front of a swamp so when it rains, gets cold or too hot we get critters. other than that they are inside cats and leave my other small animals alone.

but one of my dogs on the other hand.. a real mouser. she's killed raccoons, groundhogs, mice, rats, chipmunks, shrews, birds, rabbits, etc anything that happens to be in my back yard. i've also seen her trying to escape to go run after a deer. other than that she's good with my other pets and is the sweetest thing.

My dog has killed 2 deers. Heh. We have a lot of them in the neighbourhood so sometimes when she's unleashed, she catches a scent and runs away for half an hour or so.
But the first time she killed a deer was when she saw one & it just took off, hunting instinct kicking in & she went after. First time she even saw a deer. She hunts it for 10-15 minutes, being real close to it but doing nothing, and suddenly it drops dead. I've heard you can scare a deer to death, so probably that's what happened. Heart stopped or something.

The second time she catches a scent & takes off, when she comes back she's all bloody. I search the deer up and it's bitten in the leg and then in the neck.

Our older female cat will leave anything and everything on the front porch for us. One of the most notable was a full grown squirrel. My dad was away and my mom didn't want to mess with, so by the time she finally decided she wanted it gone, well.. the thing was pretty ripe. I got paid 50 bux to shovel the mess into several trash bags. One of the nastier things I've seen and done.
>> Anonymous
Some of the more interesting things our cat has caught and brought to us: a huge rat, several water voles, innumerable mice and voles, a couple of shrews, a mole, a wounded squirrel (it had been shot to the leg), a lame pigeon, a pheasant chick, a magpie chick and last but not least a weasel. It's crazy what all a cat can catch when you have a really big yard surrounded by some woods. No hares yet, though.

It's okay to kill a deer for sport or simply because the meat tastes good. This is as much an accident as it is when you hit a deer with a car (well, sort of..)
Responsible ownership can fuck off, she's family.

Also, deer in Sweden is bigger than their natural population. The year 2005 more than 210000 deers were killed in this country. Why should I care if my dog manages to bite one of them to death?
About 25 000 - 30 000 collisions with deers are reported each and every year. In a big city like Stockholm, they're a fucking PROBLEM.

Yes, I know I'm just justifying wrongful behaviour here. But seriously, I'm a vegetarian and not even I see the wrong in this.

>> Anonymous
>>113338here. my dog has only killed things that wandered into my backyard. free game there.

and>>113407, they are probably referring to a US hunting law. in the USA there is a hunting law in most states(if not all) that you cannot use a dog to hunt animals other than birds(or at least deer, bears, wolves, coyotes, etc). Dogs can easily get hurt by a kick in the face or being gored by antlers.

but since you don't live here people can get the fuck over themselves unless they know about your country's hunting laws.
>> Anymonous

>> Anonymous
>>113407
So it's illegal in Sweden for your dog to kill a deer, so much that you have to hide the evidence?
>> Anonymous
>>113434

I don't know about Sweden, but it's complicated in the USA.

For example, they have hunting seasons when you can legally take deer, and those seasons (and what deer you can take) vary by weapon as well. For example, usually archery season opens earlier than rifle season, etc.

If you kill a deer out of season--however it happend--then you could be in big trouble. If the game warden decides it was an accident then you're A-OK. On the other hand, if he decides that you did it on purpose, then you're in deep shite.

Burying the body is often the safest way out of that predicament.

A related issue is what happens with animals that are being a nuisance? For example, what happens if you have a vegetable garden and the deer are constantly eating your crops? Or if you keep poultry that are being eaten by Foxes?

Legally, you have to file paperwork, wait for a Dept. Of Fish & Wildlife biologist to come and study the situation, and then they might issue you a permit to trap and relocate the animal. WTF? Therefore most people subscribe to the "Three S" rule: Shoot, Shovel, and Shut Up. Most wardens are OK with that so long as you don't make a trophy out of the nuisance animal.

I live in a house with three cats. Our general area is quite densely populated with cats but we were the first to get Mainecoons. Up until that point, we had a problem with magpies teasing cats, swooping down and winding the cats up but staying just out of reach.

Mainecoons have a standing jump of about six feet when properly motivated by, say, a magpie thats being a dick.

The magpie problem swiftly vanished.

My cats have killed:
A huge crow (joint effort between huge lanky tomcat and snailkitten)
several squirrels
several small birds
several lizards/geckos
lots of short tailed shrews (yes, the toxic ones)

I hate it when they attack things, because they almost always bring them to the door, and I end up having to kill the creatures because they are still alive and horribly maimed.

That crow though.. creepiest thing I ever saw. It had landed in the yard and was eating bird seed with some other birds. Snailkitten laid in the grass about 30 feet away, batting at some bees or something, and some of the little birds flew off. The ones that stayed stopped eating for a bit, then resumed, but the crow was really watching her, like it knew something was up. That whole time, my tomcat was sneaking around the edge of the fence around behind the birds, and then suddenly leaped onto the crow. Snailkitten quit her innocent act and ran for them, and it took about a minute of struggling before they killed it. I still have some of the feathers.

My cats are kept indoors.. But they've still managed to catch a few things. Old farmhouse = lots of mice around.

One night I heard my cat Link playing in the hallway outside my bedroom, I figured he had a toy. When I woke up there was this HUGE mouse beside my bed, I almost stepped on it.

A few weeks later the same damn thing happened, except this time he left another mouse in my bed. On the pillow. In my hair. and it wasn't DEAD yet. Mortally wounded, but not dead. So I woke up flipping out feeling something squirming to death in my hair (But the body disappeared, my bro's cat B had stolen it).

Nobody believed me until my brother's cat left the corpse in HIS bed later on.

Ha ha, I always get a pretty good laugh when I hear about cats and dogs bringing their owners "presents" of dead animals. They aren't really tokens of gratitude. When a cat or dog gives you a dead thing, it is because she is trying to "feed" you, since she thinks (knows) you are too stupid or clumsy to catch your own food. :)

In the US, it's common knowledge if a dog is found chasing any game animal or livestock he will be promptly shot.
A neighbor had a pack of dogs that constantly ran down dear and killed them. Band of hunters went sniper on their asses in deer stands.
