So, what are some good pets for apartments? I'm a single guy, and I'm home mostly at night time, so, something to fit that would be cool.

Does anyone know how a landlord would react to said pets? I know Dogs and Cats are obvious (scratching and barking)

All I can say is reptiles...their in a cage and not really messy birds throw food and other things all over so a reptile seems ur best bet like a snake, lizard, fish, etc...

Hamsters! They are social, and nocturnal. You can watch them stuff their cheeks or kill themselves with a new toy youve gotten them.

most landlords do not allow any form of pet, depending on your country/province/state this may or may not be legal but in most cases your not going to bother to fight them for it. You best bet would be to get something that is small and can easily be hid when the landlord comes. With regard to a night dwelling creature, what about a chinchilla?

Actually you might want to look around a bit. I've stayed at two different apartment complexes where dogs and cats were restricted but you could have caged pets or fish with no restrictions and no "pet deposit".

Chinchillas are fun, I had one for many years. He lived to be fifteen! However, they do require more care than your average "small animal", with their dust baths, large cage requirements and such. They are also easily stressed, so don't get one if you have a rowdy lifestyle. They like a quiet, sedate enviornment. I'm not saying don't get one, but read up on them first.

Gerbils are a good choice for apartment living. They'e mainly nocturnal. They smell much less than rats/mice/hamsters. They don't eat much and they are cheap and easy to take care of. They are also highly active, so they're entertaining to watch and play with.

I'd be careful about chinchillas.

If you get one that scares easily, they can be one of the most nightmarish creatures ever.

Nigh on impossible to catch after letting them out for their daily excercise.

Though watching them take a "bath" is always amusing.
