Hay /an/.

I'm planning on getting two kittans.

Apparently you're supposed to have 2 litter boxes per cat. Now I'll go ahead and get 4 litter boxes, but I'm wondering if it's absolutely necessary to have them far apart from each other. It'd be kind of ridiculous to have 4 spaced out litter boxes all over my room.

teach your cats to use the toilet

You can have one litter box, you just have to clean it out more often.

the rule of thumb I've always heard for cats is one litter box per cat plus one. No you don't need to have them spread apart, but if you're getting young kittens it might be best. The youngens don't have a whole lot of bladder/bowel control and the closer a litter box is when they decide they need to go and go NOW the more likely it is they'll be using the litter box instead of your floor.

One litter box for two cats works perfectly fine. 4 litter boxes would just be a waste of space.

Zen litter box?

Three boxes right next to each other works for my three cats. Cleaning once a day is plenty, can go for up to 48 hr.s when needed.

One box should suffice for two kittens in a small house. Kittens get along fine with each other, no need to separate the boxes. If it's a big house, put two boxes in different locations for easier access early on.

This anon is correct. 1+1 is the general rule.
