/an/, I need your help researching this spider I found outside my house in Ohio. My housemates and I want to keep it for a pet? Anyone know what it is so that I can find out how bad an idea this is?

Picture is the back.
If a picture of the front is needed, I will get it, but the thing kinda scares me... It is about 3 inches long.

Isn't that what every anon says to every spider question?

It's a garden spider. I wouldn't keep it as a pet, it'd probably be hard to feed and wouldn't survive anyway. They're completely harmless.

No, normally I say something like "black fishing recluse", but I am feeling particularly unhelpful today. Enjoy your harmless spider.

Let it be so it reproduces and eats flys and mosquitoes.
I keep a bit of track of the spiders on my property, got a shitload of funnel weavers. A few arboreal orb weavers too, very pretty.
