My cat always kicks more litter out of her box than she uses to cover up her poops. I have a plastic carpet that's meant to keep litter tracking down to a minimum but the area around the litterbox is always dusted with litter.
Her box has a guard which is meant to keep thrown litter down to a minimum. I've tried using one of those completely covered litterboxes to no avail and they actually stink the place up even worse.
How can I keep litter box maintenance down to a minimum?

There are special cat-boxes wid bend edge preveting most of it to go outside the box.
Have an tray under the box for colecting.
Emty the box often.

Two solutions. I did this with my cats. Get a covered litter box. This will keep the smell down and make it impossible for them to throw much out. Second, get a doggy / kitty door and just remove the litter box. I did this after my mother died and left me her two cats so I had four cats which was too much to clean up after. They will just start going out side.

Definitely get a covered litterbox. They work like a charm.

I hope you don't live close to schools, kindergartens or playgrounds.

Get a plastic tote like this and cut a hole in the top. Cheap and easy.

I hope pic is not rrelated, cause if so your problem is you dont clean the damn box often enough. Your cat probably doesnt want to go inside the box, so its going outside and kicking litter out to cover it. Clean your shit up.
