Okay, my neighbors recently caught a stray cat and it turns out the cat has FIV. The cat was put to sleep. Was there really no recourse? I'm all sad because of this.

>FIV is not a death sentence for cats, as they can live relatively healthy as carriers and transmitters of the disease for many years. A vaccine is available although its efficiency remains uncertain, and cats will test positive for FIV after vaccination.[2]

If only they had caught an E, they could have had five.

Jesus fuck. I would've taken the cat in. I would've shelled out for the cat's vet bills. Now I feel even worse.

how can FIV be vaccinated?? it works the very same way HIV works..... its controllable to a point but not curable and certainly not vaccinatable

That sucks. I had pretty much the only cat I ever liked (a freshly grown up tomcat that never used it's claws except to catch mice) be put down because of feline leukemia. Great pic by the way.

Color me ignorant, but cats can get AIDS?

Yes, it's called FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus), which is cat aids.

I took in a cat that had FIP. The vet said he could live, but his bills would be enormous. He started convulsing one day and wasn't even aware of what was going on around him, so I had him put to sleep.

My roomate's cat has FIV.
He's 18 years old.

I say putting the cat down was unnecessary...

Has it ever lived on the street? Could be! Maybe you should take it to the vet, just to make sure.
