My wandering jew dies out for about two months of the year, whenever it gets hot outside and whenever it gets really cold. Basically it doesn't like extreme temp changes. Right now, it's gone into a really crappy, browny mushy look, like rotting fruit. But in a few weeks, it'll plump back up to a beautiful purple. For us, it's not a huge deal because we let honeysuckle, trumpet vines, and shamrocks grow through it, so even when it's "in a bad mood" we still have a carpet of green, red, and pink.
Snap off a leaf and see if it oozes water. If it does, it's still alive, and quit fucking watering it so much. It's not a bog plant.
