I found this thing in my aquarium. What the fuck is it and where did it come from? None of the fish in my tank have shells.

watersnail probably
did you buy any new plants?

It's normal, most aquariums have shells. Buy some Chromobotia Macracanthus, they'll eat them alive :D

I haven't added anything new to this tank in 5 years besides fish. Could one of the fish be carrying a snail egg with it?
>> Anonymous
You probably never saw them. They use to stay hidden under the sand until it gets dark.

There's no way man, I've had this aquarium for over 10 years. It's a small tank, I've changed the water dozens and dozens of times, gone through lots of different fish, but never seen a snail in there.

Plus, if it had been there for a long time, there would have to be more of them - and they'd be reproducing. This guy seems to be all by himself.

Do you have live plants in your tank or plastic?

Well then, congratulations: that's the first of a future healthy seasnails dinasty.

Hmm don't know then. I used to have a tank that didn't have these and then found a ton of them when I switched to live plants.

It's a Malaysian Trumpet Snail. They are notorious for hitching a ride to your aquarium with plants, but I've never heard of one coming along with a fish. It's possible it was in the bag with the fish and you didn't notice it.... the babies are really tiny and can be mistaken for dirt or a bit of gravel if you're not paying attention. I've had many show up in my tanks... they're harmless, and they eat algae so they can be a good thing.
