What's /an/'s preferred pet rodent?

I've had two hamsters in my life, and two mice. The mice lived together, I did not care for them much as they weren't as friendly as my hamsters.

My first hamster was a doll, and my current hamster is kind of a recluse.

So what is it, /an/? Rats, mice, ferrets, rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc?
>> Anonymous
Definitely rats.. mine even likes to go to the pet store for his treats. For the smaller, "less intelligent" rodents, gerbils are great.

I was given a hamster but am not a big fan of animals that prefer to be solitary.

In b4 "ferrets aren't rodents, faggot"

I had hamsters and guinea pigs. They don't notice me much so I'm gonna try rats next.

Rats, hands down.

However, now that I am older and lazier, I have been considering something really anti-social that I can stick in a tube maze and watch it run nonstop for a year or two before it croaks.

Anyone living in college dorms that know the pet policy as far as dorms go?

I'm planning on moving in to one some time and I want to have a rat.

It varies depending on where you go. Most colleges/universities don't allow pets, but an increasing number have started allowing them because it encourages higher grades (less people worrying about their pets back home).

When you ask about it, mention that it is a "caged pet," as they fall under less strict rules than dogs and cats.

Hamsters are shit. Mice are very friendly, but a little more timid than rats, which are the best.

All other rodents are for rednecks and weeaboos.

My college doesn't allow pets but last year I bought a hamster and just kept the cage under my desk. I posted pics of it on Facebook and whatnot, so it's not like I kept it a total secret. I'm sure just as long as you keep the smell at bay and clean up after it good it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, funny story. Last year I was just chilling in my dorm room and, I shit you not, I saw a dog walk by. I freaked out and wanted to know what was up. Someone was keeping the dog in their room for the weekend and it ended up shitting in a bunch of the rooms.

Ferrets aren't rodents. Ferrets eat rodents.

Rats are my favorite because of how easy to care for they air, their wonderfully sweet personalities, and their beautiful colors, but I also really like ferrets. (Six rats and 1 ferret)

I had guinea pigs...but those bitches were the most annoying things ever.

Has anyone had a bad experience with a rat? It seems like they're just all-around nice creatures.

I actually have. (Was the one that posted above you)

My first rats was when I was 15 and decided to get two adult rats from Petsmart. I was stupid and knew nothing about rats like I do now, and thought I'd be fine.

They were HORRIBLE creatures. They'd bite me whenever I came near the cage...one of them, a black one, would push my fingers away and ocassionally bite me, but one would RUN at my hand and chomp down on my hand and viciously tear when I put it in the cage at all, and would grab for me outside of the cage. She was horrible, and attacked my cat when I put her out. I had to handle her with gloves when I had to change the cage, and she used to shit everywhere whenever I touched her. She had fucking RABIES or something.

Pic related because it's the demon bitch.

Finally once she bit me enough to make me bleed for the seventeenth time that week when I accidently brushed against the cage, I decided I had had enough and gave them to the pet store. They probably got devoured by a snake long ago.

Rabbits aren't rodents either.

The only one I've ever had was a guinea pig. Even though he was horribly socialized (a teacher of mine gave him to me, he'd been a classroom pet for awhile but the kids didn't like him and by the time we got him he was aging, twitchy, and paranoid) he was pretty funny and I loved him. Someday I'd like to get another one that I can actually care for properly in its youth.

The only time I had a bad experience with a rat was when I chose one for color and not for temperament. When I take the time to select a rat, make sure I get to know them and shit, I get good rats.

>>227811
That's why places like Petsmart offer a 14 day guarantee. Don't mesh with your new pets? Return them.

What had you done differently between the first rats you had and the second?

Ferrets aren't rodents, you cunt. Ferrets are far superior to rodents.

Rabbits aren't rodents, either. Fucking die.

Big misconception - you can have rats and cats in the same household. I have the biggest asshole of a murdering cat who dessimates outdoor creatures, but ignores my rats. Also, cages.

Just smuggle them inside!
That's what i do. I keep illegal rodents in my room.

Fucking hate guinea pigs and that fucking noise they make.

Also, I've had many rats, I love them. Had a ferret once, but due to lack of room, and lack of room for him to play in, I had to give him up. But, he was really awesome. I agree, Ferrets superior.

But, anyway, I used to have this rat that'd roam free in my house. It was incredibly clean; it'd even go back to it's cage to sleep/use the bathroom. Loved it, but it eventually went blind and died. /cry

I love my rats, they are the sweetest things.

I suggest you do some research on pet rats and see what other peoples stories are with them.
Mine give me kisses, love to snuggle and love attention. They are smart and just plan awesome.

i fuckin love rats man.
my mom had a rat before i was born named simon.
the thing about simon is that he grew to be about 2 feet long and became incredibly angry in his old age.
has anyone ever heard of a rat growing that big? cuz those pictures taken in 1985 told no lies and i have never seen one that big since.

RATTES

Id recommend a rat or a guinea pig. Rats are smart and playful but can bite hard if you poke your fingers in their cage. Guinea pigs are easier but less smart (no haters, you know its true).

If I would have to take a rodent for a pet, I'd take a rat. I have experience from other rodents, but they've been either boring or otherwise disappointing.

But to tell you the truth, I don't want to take another pet that's going to be dead from old age in a couple of years. :(

Rats are great pets, fun to watch and play with. Mine groom me when I let them out. They have very distictive personalities too. plus they will eat just about any treat you give them.

The drawback is rats only live a few years, which is sad.
