looking into buying a pac man frog for my apartment. Does anyone have any experience with these guys? Im an athlete at my college so i may be gone for several days at a time for competition. How big of a problem is this?

if you leave some crickets in with it and plenty of water it should be fine for a couple days. i think they are sweet pets, they will eat anything and when they get big enough you can feed them pinky mice. they just need a moist humid environment and plenty of food. they bite if you are dumb enough to put your fingers in front of their face.

I had one once. No problem leaving them alone for several days, as long as they can't escape the tank or whatever they are in. They can go weeks without eating if in a healthy well fed condition.

I had mine in a tank, part water, part land (vivarium) with 3 other local small frogs. He ate one of them. Poor little guy, I could hear him croaking inside the belly of the horned frog.

They are from the tropical countries so you need to create a similar environment. Depending where you are you may need to add some heat.

Bad idea... At least feeding them ALL the time is a bad idea. Pinky mice are high in fat content and will bloat your frog to death real quick if you turn it into a diet. Once every 3-4 weeks, even once a month is good. But seriously, feeding a pacman frog on pinkies=death.

My senior professor had one and he fed it a mouse ever 1-2 weeks, and his seemed ok. He's still got it.

The big problem with being gone for multiple days is probably going to be feeding, as an adult should be fed daily or every other day, but as others have said you could get away with an occasional mouse or pinky and then going a few days without feeding. Other than that a thermostat to maintain proper temperature, a timer for for lighting, and a really good filter (as you might imagine they shit a lot) should keep things stable while you're away.

The most common fatalities among these frogs seems to be impaction (especially of gravel) and infections stemming from the necessary high humidity and inadequate air movement/ventilation.
