Dear /an/,

Please help me. I've had this kitten for the past month and she is driving me insane. She keeps biting me. Most people complain about cats scratching and what not, but she can't stop biting my arm. I've tried everything: spraying her with water, spanking, moving her. Nothing's seemed to work. I like her and I don’t want to get rid of her, but I need to figure out what to do. I can’t take much more of this.

Pic related, it’s her biting my arm.

spraying water is not as effective as people make it out to be. try a can of air so it makes a hissing sound (or if you're nutty like me, just make a loud hiss yourself.)

heh sorry, wrong thread!

First, very cute kitten. :)

As for the biting... To be honest? Every person I've known (self included) who's gotten a kitten have had scrap meat for arms for about the first year... She'll eventually stop biting on her own, and it sounds like you've been doing a good job with the moving her when she does... depending on how old she is (she still looks pretty small), slowly wean her off of biting by no longer holding her when she bites. It takes awhile for them to get the picture. Only pick her up/pet her/etc if she doesn't bite. The instant she does, put her down again. It will teach her that you aren't a chew toy, and if she wants affection, she's going to have to curb that habit.

That's the way all three of my kittens were 'weaned'. She's basically trying to rough-house with you, inciting play.

Good luck! :D

my cat still bites me but its nothing really aggressive, she just likes to nipple on my hand

This is easy to train out of a cat.

1) allow her to nibble on your hand.
2) slowly move your index finger into her mouth.
3) depress her tongue slightly until she stops.
4) repeat as necessary
5) ???
6) cat associates biting you with unwanted tongue sensation (aka, PROFIT)

she may even be teething get her something hard to chew on and when she chews on your hand slowly place the object near her mouth and get her to start chewing on that and hopefully she will just chew that until her new teeth have come

I wonder whether this is something similar to a friend's kitten, who liked to attack everyone's ankles, with claws and all. They taught her not to behave like that by doing a very sharp "LOVE IS OVER" maneuver, i.e. reacting strongly ("aagh! get the hell off me!") and then withholding affection.

She learned surprisingly fast. Particularly when they gave her other toys to play-hunt; kittens have these instincts after all.

love is over? lol, but yeah doing that and withholding love/play gets the point across

Try using chili powder on your hands.

And here's a panda pile for no reason.

Just imagine what other parts she could be nibbling on... while you sleep! NAKED!

All kittens do that, she should grow out of it.

yes, that. sprinkle chili powder on your arm

wait, you tried spanking your cat? ANIMAL CRUELTY B&

Rub something like Vaporub on your arms. The smell should be enough to keep kitty away and it's easier to keep on than chilli powder. Find a chew toy for kitty too.

My cat Cameron used to chew on my arms all the time. He grew out of it. Its a kitten thing.

I would shout "GAARRRWWWW!!!" and do a little monster dance if my cat bites me.

Scare them almost all the time.
