A question to the rabbit owners of /an - do you keep your bunnies alone or in pairs?
>> Anonymous
all rabbits should be neutered, firstoff, they are better temperment afterwards and it reduces the chance for cancer. In pair often, they are happier.

Rabbits are very social creatures. Even if you're at home all day, they're better off with a peer to be rabbit with. (Imagine yourself in a household of ytmnders, they might be nice and feed you and pet you, but who will help you block the pool and giggle at in-jokes?) I'd have between 2 and 4 rabbits, depending on space and skill.

Making rabbits bond is an entire science on its own.

my family had a rabbit and after two years we decided to get him a companion. he was fixed already and the other rabbit we got was a girl. they were together for 4 years and got along pretty well. theyd sit beside one another, groom each other, and what not.

from the times that ive had only one rabbit, they seem much more receptive to people then than when they have another rabbit to socialize with. so if youve developed a companionship with the rabbit and introduce another one, its very possible that the first rabbit will care less for you and more for the other. for exampe the boy rabbit used to go up to people to be pet, but when we got the other rabbit he stopped doing that and just went to her all the time.

Yeah, that happened to my rabbit too. He used to go up to me and have his chin scratched like a cat, but ever since we got him a partner, he just stays with her all the time. Very defensive too.
