My beardie refuses to eat crickets anymore, /an/.

What are some other good live foods to act as his staple diet?

Various grubs: mealworms, superworms, waxworms, silkworms, phoenix worms, etc.

Roaches (many different varieties available)

Locusts, grasshoppers, and so on.

If your dragon is small he might go for flightless fruit flies, which are cheap and simple to breed. D. Hydei is the larger species which is readily available. These are too small for larger dragons though.

OP here.

Thanks for the advice. He's nearly full grown so the flies might be out of the question. I've been using Superworms as kind of a "special occasion" food, but I might have to start buying more. Also, might pick up some roaches.

OP (again)

How hard is it to breed hissing roaches as a food source?

Not hard at all. I used to keep some as pets in a small terrarium, and they ended up breeding so much i had to start giving them away to a reptile store. Just make sure they have plenty of space to hide in, some nice substrate such as Bed-A-Beast, and either a heatpad or a infrared heatlamp.

Roaches or silkworms. Silkworms are great but the time and cost of raising them to a suitable size can be prohibitive. I wouldn't recommend a lot of superworms due to the amount of chitin.

...probably don't need to ask, but are you sure he's getting enough greens?

Yea, I give him greens, but he's really picky with them and often shuns the veggies.

Cool, I'll probably be doing this. Can you recommend any sites to purchase a breeding pair from, or are they all about the same?

Also, is a 20gal aquarium big enough?
