what is this? Anonymous
my cat came home today and i noticed this little wound on his foreleg. he had such a thing a year ago on his tail.
only this time it looks like the hair was ripped out in a circular manner with a little hole in the middle. wtf?

there is a bot fly larva living inside the leg of your cat. enjoy your disgusting.

Smart people don't let Fluffy fend for himself outside. Cats can succumb to a lot of dangers outdoors. They can get hit by cars, caught in a leg hold trap, get attacked by a dog or other animals (coyotes, bears, even foxes...). There are sick fucks out there who would use an outdoor cat for target practice or for illegal dog fighting training. Some people might be concerned and bring the cat to an animal shelter since they figure it's homeless.

Lesson: dont let your cat outside.. no matter how street-smart you think he is!! he probably isn't!! Keep him inside =] kthanx
>> Anonymous
>>317440
Yeah I don't know why people insist on letting their cats out. You're pretty much dooming your cat to some sort of horrible death or disease.
>> Anonymous
most of the time, outdoor cats end up with FIV, the feline version of HIV, from humping other cats/getting humped by other cats outside. That wouldn't happen if you just kept them in your damn house now, would it? =/
>> Anonymous
while you guys are ranting about why its bad for people to let their cats outside, i just want to say that lately, i've had like 10 or 11 dead sparrows and cardinals in my yard. i have a backyard with a seven foot tall wooden fence but my neighbor lets her cat live OUTSIDEEEE... so this beast hops into my yard, kills the birds eating out of the birdfeeder or in the little fountain thing, and then just goes back home..

i will kill this cat next time i see it. i am so pissed about constantly having to clean up torn up and dead birds!!

I don't kill cats, I set raccoon traps on my yard and take them to a shelter. If the owner is a total asshole or a complete idiot, he/she won't even call the local shelter and the cat will be put to sleep. There's two weeks to claim a pet that has been taken in. I've sent 4 cats to the shelter already, none of them were missed by the owner.

People who don't give a shit about their pet's whereabouts shouldn't have one.

The extermination of my neighborhood's cats has resulted in all sorts of totally awesome wildlife for me to observe on my yard.
>> Anonymous
>>317498
That's a good idea. I hate that all the cats and their stupid owners who let them out are killing off so much wildlife.
>> Anonymous
>>317440
That's actually a good idea. Neighbor cats poopin in my back yard and killing my songbirds will from now on get a nice trip to the shelter rather than a full-on soaking from my hose's gun-nozzle.

Ringworm maybe. Makes the circular wound. We don't know, we're not vets.

>> Crazy Cat Lady
could be an abscess OP. i'd suggest taking it to a vet. i've tried to treat abscesses at home and they usually work out, the last cat we tried to treat it got really badly infected, got maggots and she had to be but down....
now before anyone goes all apeshit on why i let my cats outside.... my parents back fence is city/county lie, they get a lot of strays that adopt them and there's not real way to keep a ferral cat indoors /out it going apeshit. they had somewhere w/ food, water and warmth, and when they wanted love, they got it.
>> Anonymous
>>317498
How do you know they weren't missed? Did you tell these people where their cats were? You probably made no effort to let people know what happened to their pets either. You sent these animals off to die for your own sick gratification.
>> Anonymous
>>317603

>> Anonymous
>>317527
Don't worry we won't go apeshit about you letting your cats live outdoors, but we will go apeshit that your dumb ass got a cat infected and had to euthanize it because you decided to try to treat it yourself instead of taking it to a god damned vet. Unless you or one of your family is a fucking vet you don't even come close to knowing how best to treat any of your pets.

We had a cat once that we took in that was a stray, but when he was let outside with our other cat, he would leave for 4-5 days at a time. Where we supposed to call the pound every time our cat went out on his fucking business? Also, lets assume somebody DID go and get their cat after you sent it away to be injected. Are you going to keep a list of which cats you've caught, so you know which five year old's pets you aren't supposed to take away?
>> Anonymous
>>317609
Cats are not supposed to live outside. So no I will not keep a list I will continue to catch every cat I find killing shit in my backyard and take it to the pound till the dumbass neighbors learn to keep their fucking animals on their own property.

If you cared about the well being of your pet you would keep it inside where it is safe.

What are you doing looking over fences and spying on what they are doing? It's his property he can do whatever he wants on it. Why don't you just be responsible and keep your cat indoors?
>> Anonymous
It looks like wound caused by another cat. As it tries to heal, the cut gets itchy, so the cat pulls out the hair around the wound, licks it, makes it worse. The vet will basically have you apply a pet-safe antibacterial ointment to apply to the cat's skin, your cat will have to stay inside and possibly wear a cone for a week.
>> Anonymous
>>317617
So what happened? Did you go into his yard? On his property? Tamper with the trap? Tamper with his property? You're a worthless piece of shit and I hope you die in a fire.

Looks like a botfly larva hole to me(all though someone already pointed this out). A friend of mine had a kitten who had one-I pulled it out with a needle after covering the hole until it popped it's little head out and speared it.

Not saying you SHOULD do that...but yeah, that is what it looks like to me. Either bring your kitty to a vet or look up how to remove said parasite. Outdoor cats are prone to getting them-although i've never seen one on an adult cat...just kittens.
>> Anonymous
It looks a bit swollen. Either a snake bite, or an abscess. Considering that pussy isn't dead yet, it's most likely an abscess that has either already drained or is going to.

If you take pussy to the vet, they will apply a warm compress to the wound to get the hardened gunk out of it, then try to press as much of the puss out of the abscess as possible before applying antibiotic and prescribing antibiotics for the cat.

The missing hair is probably caused by the cat itself scratching, licking, and rubbing at it, because the spot fucking hurts.

>> Anonymous
Looks like a bite wound, probably from fighting something.
>> Anonymous
>>318323
This. My cat came home with the same thing. I recommend keeping him inside during the night, it's what I do with my kitty. The strays tend to come out at night and keep to themselves and nap during the day. So let her out in the day and bring her in at night. If your strays are anything like the ones around here, that should solve your problem.

As for the wound itself, just keep an eye on it. If it looks to be getting worse than take him to the vet. It SHOULD heal on it's own though.

Thanks, but you're wrong.

"The main characteristic of a sociopath is a disregard for the rights of others."

Looks like the cat owners are the sociopaths here. I have my rights, and the wild animals on my yard have in a way their own rights. (No killing unless there is a purpose)

If my neighborhood's cats were like "a nice kitty walking through my property every now and then", there would be no problem. I fucking love cats.
But for the past three years that I've lived here, those little pests have not only killed shitloads of animals, but systematically stacked those dead carcasses under my garage. Yeah, it smells pretty awful there. In addition to that, there's always some little nuisance, like scratch marks on my car, torn garbage bags, piss on my car cover during winter time (I love going to school with urine smell on my hands), etc, etc.

One really can't complain to the owners. Their reaction is always like I had told them that their child is ugly or something. Fuck them.

don't take a cat when your not letting him outside,

cats need to be outside, but i guess in america its different where you have fake plastic indoor cats. If you love your cat and you want to make his little life more exciting don't keep him inside like a fucking plant, you get a different cat when you keep him inside his whole life.

I know because I always had cats, look at these 3 strong healthy cats.

>> sage sage
Not this shit again. Why would I let my cat go outside on a leash? He wants to wander around my garden! He's not about to go into the road because there's this whole wonderful thing called "having a house in the way". He wanders the back gardens of the neighbourhood. Once he wandered off for a week and came back fatter than ever with a collar around his neck calling him "Lucky".
He'll go have a fight with another cat and he'll be able to defend himself from foxes because he's not on a fucking leash and he hasn't been declawed like you "cat cruelty is letting them go outside" retards.
TL;DR cats are smarter than you give them credit for and I'm tired of seeing this argument every fucking day.

Nice cats, but do they stick to your own yard or do they wander off onto neighboring properties?
>> Anonymous
Jesus christ, this again?

IT'S ALL ABOUT PREFERENCE AND WHAT YOU THINK IS PERSONALLY THE BEST FOR YOUR CAT. My cat is indoor/outdoor because I have a large yard, don't really care if she kills mice or voles, and there is little to no traffic where I live. Our closest neighbor is YARDS away and I keep her inside during the night when the strays come out to keep her from getting hurt.

This has to be the stupidest fucking argument ever. There is no right or wrong, it all has to do with where you live, what the people are like around you, and what YOU PERSONALLY think is best for your cat.
>> Anonymous
>>317440
Indoor cats 9 out of 10 times are completely neurotic and should be considered animal abuse IMO.
Also, my cat RARELY leaves my backyard, sometimes crosses the street where there's a ravine with heavy thicket. I'm pretty sure he's in no danger.
>> Anonymous
>>319156
No, I know plenty of indoor cats that are happy and healthy. If your kitty enjoys playing with toys and has lived their whole life indoors then they're fine. I have a friend who lives in an apartment and CAN'T let her kitty outside. She's perfectly happy, but she needs a LOT of attention.

My cat on the other hand would go nuts. I tried to make her an indoor cat and she starting pissing everywhere and clawing the hell out of the furniture. She's also totally disinterested in every toy I've gotten her. The only time she's happy is when she's allowed to roam outside.
>> Anonymous
I know indoor and outdoor cats (and a few that get outside on a leach with the owner), and they all seem more or less happy. Some indoor cats get bored if you don't play with them and they have to be alone half a day. Also there are cats that don't want to go outside at all.

I don't get it why some people are so obsessed with denying cats to be outside. Think about all the smells and excitement they get. Of course it depends on where you live, if you can't provide a proper habitat you should not get a cat. Otherwise you are pretty selfish.

Also it shouldn't be too difficult to have a talk with your neighbour (or at least leave a note) if a cat bothers you. Why the hell is it so hard to communicate? It tells a lot about you if you have to shoot at or trap an animal that someone loves. There are many ways to protect birds. Most cats I know don't even catch that many birds, mostly they eat mice and such that people don't want around anyway.

You can't protect your pet from everything, just like you can't lock up your daughter in fear of rapists. Most cat's are pretty smart and avoid cars, but you can also teach it by hanging around with it outside and showing the ropes.
>> Anonymous
>>319156
Well I've had 4 cats, and they've all been indoor cats, and none of them have been neurotic. They they've been happy, well adjusted, normal fucking cats.

I've never even seen a neurotic cat. I only know one cat that has anything wrong with it at all, and it's my neighbor's cat, who is an indoor/outdoor cat. It's batshit crazy... rubs up against people and then scratches the hell out of them if they try to touch it.

Anyway, the fact of the matter is... you do what you think is best for you and your pets, but understand that letting your animals outside means the possibility of losing that animal. There will always be predators, diseases, poisons, and other hazards, whether you want to think so or not. If you're willing to accept that risk, then go for it.
