Hey /an/ I have these two cats, one we got as a kitten (A Calico) and have had it for about 6 years I guess. Its always been rather lazy (more so than most any other cats I've had), and We're trying to get it on a diet. But thats not what I'm hear to talk to you about. We also have another cat (Tuxedo) that wondered into our yard about 3-4 years ago, It wasn't a kitten, but it wasn't over 6 months old either. He has been neutered, and our Calico has been spayed, and the problem is that they never (even after living together for several years) seem to get along. They won't play with each other, they still hiss at each other. I have tried putting their food bowels next to each other, what are you supposed to do to get the animals to like each other?

Sometimes cats just won't ever like each other. Like people, you can't force them to get along. The two cats we had when I was younger had a sort of mutual agreement, they'd eat together and sleep in the same room, but aside from that they pretty much avoided each other.

Lock them together in a small room or closet for an hour.

Putting the bowls together is not a good thing, with any animal. Especially if they are males, they will always have boundaries and territory issues (your two cats just seem to have more dominant personalities, even if they are sweet). Sitting in the same room is pretty much hanging out for a feline, anyway, don't push the issue.

I think it's part of their personality - especially since one of them has been there longer than the other, it might consider the Tuxedo cat a "newcomer" on its turf. I have 2 cats - one grey one black - and the grey one hisses and growls at the black one, even though the black one is perfectly social.

cats are funny like that, just like people. some cats just don't like certain other cats, for no real reason. My girlfriend has had a cat for 12 or so years, and 2 years ago, we took in a stray cat, sweetest little thing, but if she(the new cat) comes anywhere near him he gets all pissed off and leaves. well she ended up taking in a kitten a year ago. now the kitten and the oldest cat are in the same place 99% of the time.

some cats just dont get along.

... this set up is EXACTLY like mine at home, except add a talkative fat siamese cat that the calico will also hiss at and run from.
