Holy FUCK /an/!

I have a couple cats. The result of this is that strays often pop up on my bedroom window begging for food. This little guy has popped up every once in a while, but... not like this. I hadn't seen him in like a week.

Look at it! What the fuck happened to it? It's all covered in mud, or shit. And it's weezing like crazy, and it's barely eating the food I put out for it, and it's eyes! My fucking god, it's eyes! It still has them but well, look! Fuck!

I can't fuck around, right? Odds are, this little guy isn't going to recover from whatever this is on it's own right? I NEED to take this thing to a vet even though it's not mine, and I really can't afford it, right? D:
>> Anonymous
Take him to a shelter. If they can fix him up, they will. If not, he'll be put down.

I'm assuming this is an upper respiratory infection. Which they get if they have worms, right?

I've seen a couple of the strays eyes puss up. Never like this though. And it's fur, it's usually so clean and pretty. It looks and smells like it was at the zoo.

My question is though, what are the chances of my cats catching what he has? I'm not letting them near him. If I take this thing in my carrier, will a simple hosing down be enough to be able to continue using it with my cats without fear of them catching whatever it has?

OP here again. It left my window when I went for my carrier, so I went out to look for it. When I came back in, it was back on my window breathing laboredly. The problem is I think he's so congested he can't smell the food.

But, the situation's worse. The cat's brother just showed up, and while he's not as bad (he can still see out of his eyes) the left one looks like it's ready to pop out. Now I have to figure out how I'm going to catch them both and get them to the vet/shelter.

The second one's going to be much harder to catch. He likes to scratch.
>> Anonymous
Kill it with water.
>> Anonymous
I would worry about the one that's worse off right now, if the other one seems to be well enough.
>> Anonymous
OP again. This... sucks. I think I'm going to have to call animal control. I was hoping to catch them myself so I could take them to a certain shelter I know for a fact has a no-kill policy unless they are beyond any chance of recovery, but I'm having a hell of a time catching them.

I'd ordinarily lure them into the carrier with tuna, but they're so congested they wouldn't smell it if I rubbed a tube of Vick's on their nose.

They've very much fought being placed in the carrier. Any tips on getting them in? They're not aggressive. No hissing or biting, but they are clawing at anything they can to keep from getting placed inside the carrier.
>> Anonymous
Put on a few layers of clothing, two or three sweat shirts should work, then just go for it.

Try to cover your hands with some thick rubber gloves, again two or three should suffice.

Good luck man.
>> Anonymous
OP again, I got the one that's worse off in the carrier. Poor thing's terrified. Should I try to get his brother in too and risk him getting out, or take him in the carrier, and come back for the brother?
>> Anonymous
OP, just put some heavy gloves on and a think top. Wear some kind of eye protection too, and just go for it. You need to catch these guys ASAP because they don't look healthy at all... when a cat's in a condition like this it needs medical treatment, can't afford to pussyfoot

>>340937

If you only have 1 carrier, come back for the other one. The first cat WILL escape if you give it a chance.
>> Anonymous
I would get that one to the vet nao, before he loses his eyes (and life)

The vet will most likely perscribe some sort of pills which you can distribute to all of them via your window there. Crush the pills up in the food...etc.
>> Anonymous
if his brother is infected, yes. i dont know how they are going to react at the vet since they arent your cats....but they probably had known people before since they came to you for food and will let you get close. feral cats wont do that...they just try to steal your food. you can try taking them to a shelter...but tell them you are interested in adopting them...so they should keep you updated on their status. good luck OP....poor cat :[

OP again.

I took the first one to my local no-kill shelter which was just put up a couple years ago. They have a wall of cages for dropping them off when the place is closed, and no one was responding.

So I put the first one in the cage. He went in willingly. He was happy not to be in the car, I think. There are bowls of water set up, and he drank from it. Good sign. I put some dry food in the cage too since it'll probably be there until morning.

Then I came back and caught the second cat. Same deal, except when I got back someone had placed a blue hoodie in the cage for the first cat to sleep on. I placed his brother in with him since I figured they'd be familiar to each other, and keep each other warm.

Also someone had placed a chihuahua holding it's paw up to it's chest in the next cage. I gave it some of the catfood. :\

On the drive home I felt like shit. Worst case scenario, they get put to sleep. Best case scenario, they get castrated. I put on a pair of gloves when I caught them. I pet them. They'd never let me pet them before. They're only around nine months old, I'd been feeding their mom for a couple years. They didn't trust me exactly, but they knew their mom came to me for food, and I just felt kind of depressed that, that was the one time they were ever pet in their lives, and for all I know it could be the last.

I did the right thing, right?

This happened to me while i was staying in santa fe, nm. me and a friend saw a kitten walking in the bike lane on cerrillos (the busiest street in the whole damn town) and the poor thing's eyes were completely covered in what looked like green snot. we lured it towards us by calling to it because it looked like the stuff blinded it. the cat let us pet him for a bit, and didnt put up any struggle when we put him in a little trash bin (brand new, just bought for our office) and took him to the shelter. They said they'd do everything could for the little guy, and we could check online to see if it was alright, but we never got around to getting the internet at the place til 2 weeks later, and by then had lost the flier with the site on it. does anyone here know what it might have had, and the chances that he came out alright?
>> Anonymous
>>341110
From what I've read online and watched in videos, it's a respiratory infection. It's a form of herpes only cats can get, but the effects are similar to that of a cold in humans. Basically they've got puss pouring out of their eyes and nose. It's mostly a problem for kittens because their immune system isn't as strong yet. If it afflicts an adult cat, it likely has heart worms, or something else weakening it's immune system.

It's triggered by stress, so as the cat gets stressed out it will have outbreaks.

The only real problem is if it becomes so congested it can't smell it's food, because then it stops eating. But like a cold, while there's no cure it's easy to treat. L-Lysine and a humidifier will do the trick.

If left untreated though, it will eventually destroy their eyes, and they'll starve to death from not eating.

This is why catfags are such an awful sub-species of human, because once they get A cat, they keep adding MORE of the awful vermin until it reaches unhealthy and ridiculous levels of SHEAR CATFAGGOTRY. Then the catfag dies and all the cats eat them, because cats are evil and disloyal little shits.

enjoy knowing the fact you are trying to justify the executions of animals because you think its "humane" to put them out of their misery. You'd never to do it a relative, don't do it to an animal.

They aren't suffering. To state that cat with the upper respiratory infection was being "put out of its misery" is like taking your mother to the electric chair because she had the flu.

flawed logic and flawed inferior thinking , rationales of the masses encircled around ideology that has failed society for many many years.

i didnt say any of those things. i think you misquoted.
i dont think any animal, no matter how sick, or ugly, or old, or useless should be refused a chance for recovery. its our fault that those strays are out there. we created their harsh every day life. its our duty to help when we can.
if we assume ourselves to be the "masters of the earth" then that would make us its caretakers and guardians too - it would make it our job to care for everything no matter how great or small because we decided we were smart enough to go and start fucking with the natural order of things.
but so many people are quick to take all the rewards and luxuries of being human, and none of the responsibilities. it makes me sad.

Actual OP here.

I hadn't posted here, because as of yet I don't have any news. The couple of times I've called, the peson I spoke to said they didn't know, and they hadn't seen them, and I needed to speak to someone else there. They sounded kind of busy.

I don't think they'll be put to sleep, I've seen other cats with respiratory infections, just never anywhere near as bad as these guys, but they're very similar to colds. As long as they're eating, they will likely recover, and they were drinking water when I dropped them off.

Sorry I don't have more of an update, but as far as I know they have not been put to sleep. Unless the person just didn't want to tell me that, and that's why they said they didn't know.

Picture to prove I'm actual OP.

Mindless moralfag, go eat a bowl of shit and cry some more.

Hunting of feral cats should be allowed in every urban and rural area because of the problems they cause. Being put down quietly in a shelter is more then they deserve.
>> Anonymous
it is an upper-respiratory, almost like cat pneumonia or something. I forget exactly wat its called, but I adopted fucking six kittens that had this. It is VERY contagious. Kepp cats that look like they might have gotten it away from your cats. Its like a disease or something- Not just a cold. They will have this forever, even if they became healthy again it will always be in their system and contagious. What we did is we took them to the vet a few times for testing and progress checks and shit. They were put on amoxcicillin and the more serious ones were put on interferon. We were given special eye drops for them. Also we had to put chap stick on their little noses. It is something easy to take care of. Its a bit expensive. Shelters are SERIOUSLY way over crowded with cats with this situation. It is recommended that cats be checked for this before you adopt from a shelter in fact.

You did the right thing because hes looking pretty miserable
