Hey /an/, is my dog too skinny? She is a Greyhound/Labrador Retriever mix so I guess she's supposed to look skinny and all, but I think she's malnourished or something. She only eats one time per day (though it's a big meal) but will eat small things around the house that we feed her. How do I made dog fat?
another, maybe not so good view
Is she showing any signs of being unhealthy? If not, she's fine I'd imagine. If everything looks normal (eyes, crap, urine, ears, nose, fur, vitals, etc) I'm pretty sure she's healthy.
Just fead her more, not much per meal, but more meals a day.(maybe a vet checkup)
it doesn't look all that malnourished to me.It is most likely just the Greyhound-side of it's genes expressing themselves. In fact I would say it is a rather pretty dog you've gotten yourself.
I have a whippet, and I must tell you that your dog has a pretty classic build for a running dog. They don't put on body fat easily- you should be able to see every detail of their musculature. Your dog isn't malnourished and as long as she keeps eating regularly you have nothing to worry about.
For her breed, she looks fine. I wouldn't worry, though I do think you should feed her twice a day (cut her usual big meal in half).

you should check with your vet to see if your pet is malnourished. i have two dogs that *i think* are carolina dog mixes and one his ribs have always shown. every time he goes to the vet tho, the vet says he looks great, and he weights the same amount as his brother (who is the same size but his ribs don't show). some dogs are frugal eaters, and as long as they're not lethargic you shouldn't try and overfeed your dog.
Obviously check with the vet, but I've always heard that you can't see a healthy dog's ribs, but you can feel them. There's a little more wiggle room with greyhounds, though.I think your dog is adorable.
