Yea and I am a woman who owns a snake with a pot head boyfriend and this is our old snake, who we sold because he was to large for our crappy apartment at the time.

nonsense though...you should have just snakeproofed the apartment and let him roam wild and free.

We should have but we had a cat and two ferrets at the time, so there would have been alot of death. We still have the ball python and yes that was a red tailed boa.
>> Anonymous
>>228460

cats, ferrets and large pythons sometimes form natural partnerships.
>> spiderman !!Q+JluTncCte
>>228459
most of the snakes in the other thread weren't mine. i only owned 3 snakes and had another in my care for a long time but technically didn't own it. we also had a baby black racer for a bit..released it though since it was refusing to take food. :(

the st. louis zoo owns all those venomous snakes. :D

i have no training in keeping venomous snakes. i've only read a few books on it. likely won't be able to ever own one either. :(

since we're talking about snakes looks..this is one of my favorite snakes..if not my favorite. it's also my current desktop image.

GOD...those are some insanely keeled scales...almost unreal. i'd probably have a heart attack if i saw that fucker..talk about intimidating. speaking of venomous snakes...lol...i saw a copperhead pwn someone good in south carolina, i was like 'dont pick it up, its a copperhead', this redneck was like 'its just a harmless water snake', and this kid proceeded to almost lose his arm. turned black and xbox hueg...good times
>> spiderman !!Q+JluTncCte

>>228467
that's why Atheris spp. rule. A. hispida is the most extreme of the bunch..as far as keeled scales go. they aren't very big..surprisingly small actually. still wouldn't want to get bit by one!
this guy on youtube has a bunch of videos of them and other snakes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ucA4__7ExiQ&feature=related

yea, not something you want to mess with. too bad that guy in SC wouldn't listen. hah

on top of that, there is no specific antivenin for the Atheris genus.

spiderman is funny.
he reminds me of those kids who will remember everything there is to know about dinosaurs; scientific names, what they theorize their behavior was like, all while only having had a green anole to relate experience-wise.

does one truly know anything about something they've only seen pictures of? XD
>> Anonymous
>>228463

venomous make fascinating pets. every time you hold them there is a sense of awe that you are allowed the honor to be tolerated by such a creature...

out of all the hots we've had, I like monocled cobras the most.
>> spiderman !!Q+JluTncCte
     File :-(, x)
>>228478
haha well reading books about them is better than nothing. :P in florida, you need to complete a lot of documented training and pay a fee to get a license to keep anything considered dangerous.

also, i've seen them in person several times..both behind glass and not behind glass.

but yes..when i was a little kid i enjoyed learning about dinosaurs and other animals. still do, though i don't pay much attention to dinosaurs.

subhumans ftw!
>> Anonymous
>>228490

yeah, but most of what you read in books is false.
like the whole gaboon vipers' teeth are only about 2.5 inches thing. wrong!
or that brown bears max out at about 1500lbs.. also wrong.. although, I think they've stopped saying that they ONLY get that big.
>> Anonymous
>>228490
and that licensing thing is kinda cool.. keeps douchebags from getting a hold of shit they shouldn't have.
except that we end up with a lot of animals people just want to give away because they can't handle them.. saves money like that XD

on second thought, its still really easy for people to get stuff they're not licensed for, or illegal stuff.. so that law is useless.
>> Anonymous
>>228471

what a pretty king. yeah, when people act dumb around poisonous animals, only bad things can happen...take this recent spat of stingrays murdering foolish bystanders, its ridiculous
>> spiderman !!Q+JluTncCte

>>228496
so i guess reading is a big waste of time?

while i'm sure there are some facts that are embellished here and there, or maybe misquoted..saying MOST of the info is false is flat out wrong. i'm not sure what books you've read though..maybe you're right about them.

most of the books i've read (concerning venomous snakes) focus more on caring for them, SAFETY!, more safety, transporting, more safety, general maintenance, etc. i have some books that get into discussion about individual species and their characteristics though.

simply put..i'm not talking about picture books with brief descriptions of a snake on each page. i have some of those though because i love pictures. haha

No they're trash produced from disposable snakes.

My pride as a amateur herpetologist would never allow me to keep something so common and boring.

Green tree pythons are barely acceptable to me.
>> spiderman !!Q+JluTncCte
     File :-(, x)
>>228871
i figure you're trolling, but that kind of attitude is surprising to hear come from someone that considers them self to be an amateur herpetologist. you would figure someone like that would appreciate all reptiles (and other animals due to their understanding of one specific group of animals) and not really think of certain species as disposable.

i know there are spiders i find less interesting than others, but i don't go around talking shit about them. while i had several of the more desirable species, i also had 3 G. rosea and enjoyed having them.

that's a nice looking snake in the pic though.

http://www.lulu.com/content/120635 this is the next book i plan on getting.. i have been reading about them and learning what i can in preparation for one day going through the necessary training and getting a license to keep something. unfortunately, that was before i signed my life away to the military..so the chances of me ever actually owning a venomous snake (or any snake at this point) are pretty low. by the time i'm out, i could have a wife and kid..in which case, i probably wouldn't risk it.

they're still fascinating to learn about. i know several people that keep venomous snakes, so at least i can go visit them. heh

Yea, he has a hard time shedding off that last bit of skin from his eyes, So I have to aid the poor baby when that happens.

Funny story, Raphael stopped eating for about six to seven months last year, and I had been stressing out over it, even though I know they go into hibernation for periods of time. So, starting December, the little turd decides that he's ready to eat, and, so with a trip to the local pet shop, I get five mice, seeing as my Savannah monitor eats about that much every other week, and two for Raph. Well, ends up my monitor's not hungry. On t he other hand, Raph gulped down the two I dropped in there for him, and was still looking for more. So, I drop another in, he downs that, and waits for another. tldr he eats all seven freaken mice and was still begging afterwards.
