Hey /an/.

These are my hamsters, two Roborovski hamsters named Starsky and Hutch.

Do you have any Roborovski hamsters? Hell, do you have/did you have any hamsters at all?

I used to have two teddybear hamsters: Nibbles and Tracy. What the FUCK, Pet Store Guy. They were supposed to be chicks. But no, Nibbles had a penis, and they used it 17 times until he died. (Pet store took them off our hands in exchange for more hamster food. It wasn't that bad of a deal.)

tl;dr experiences with hamsters.

I've always wanted one, but every friend I've ever met with a hamster or gerbil was covered in bites. Are there any that don't feast on human flesh, or were all my friends' hamsters mall petstore demons?

I approve of your pets' names.

Thank you.

Well, Robos like mine are supposedly very docile, and they don't bite - probably because they're too busy flipping a shit running super fast inside the cage. They're really more for people who'd rather watch their hamsters than play with them. Because they're super fast little children aren't advised to have them.

Those hamsters your friends had probably were part demon part not trained the right way. They have to get used to how you smell; at least, that's how I got my other hamsters to get used to me. It's all gradual.

I had teddy bear hampsters. Cutest things ever. They were suckers for attention. Most of them time they would clambor aroudn the cage door and hope I'd open up...hoping for a mix off affection and treats. Once they learn you AREN'T going to eat them...they open up pretty good. Play with them. Pet them. Feed their fat faces. They'll learn to love you. It IS a big leap, in a rodents world EVERYTHING is trying to eat it.

I grew up with hamsters and never really had any great experiences with them. I found them all rather bitey, even the nice ones... god forbid you wake 'em up.

I've had mice for several years now and I've never been bitten, and they crave your attention and are quite adorable!

I had three Robos until recently. They are a lot of fun to watch, and to bother, but that's about it. They're like furry fish, really. My favorite type is the Winter White, which I have four of now (trying to get rid of them too...they were abandoned at a pet store...). A list of my hamsters is easiest:

Syrians:
Pepsi, a yellow/red banded longhaired
Locke, a short haired dalmatian

Russians:
Tchkaikovski
Freya
Skuzle

Robos:
Sandy
Cindy
Mindy

They have all passed, except the four nameless I am trying to get rid of.

Also, shame on the Pet Store Guy for mistaking Syrians. I understand, say, Robos, but not Syrians. Shame.

I have two Robos. They're much more active since we changed their diets a little. Not the most fun pet, but they're adorable.
