Actually those are circular blades in the suckers.
Looking just like jagged cookie cutters.

The largest, most dangerous cephalopods in the ocean: colossal squid, giant squid and school bus.
>> Anonymous
Many a ship fell prey to the deadly school bus in the age of sail.

I feel sorry for the cute Cthulhu.

The OP is actually a picture of the giant squid (Architeuthis) that was caught in December of 2006. I can tell from some of the pixels and from having seen quite a few giant squid in my time.

Nope, that picture actually is the Collosal Squid which they caught. Proof is in the slideshow here:

I want one of those as a pet. Seriously. I realize I'd have to become a millionaire first and would have to get a huge pressurized aquarium built for it but dammit I'd totally do it!

Wrong. Proof is in this article from 22 December 2006.

That's only 10 meters long. That's a baby star-spawn at most.

and These are the small ones!

that gaint squid is just not big enough.
personaly I'd only be impressed by something that could eat a submareine, like twise the size of a blue whale
*shakes head*
>> Anonymous
>>65533
Theres a reason that the Blue Whale is the largest creature in existance, and not a squid or something. Its called an internal skeleton. A squid twice the size of a blue whale would be crushed into oblivion by its own weight.
>> monneyman3
That's a "Colossal" squid by the way, not a Giant squid.... they are talking about making it a new species. It's indiginous to the lower 1/6 of the planet (as far as we know now)

>>65437

Unfortunately, you can't eat them. For some reason, giant and collossal squid have an ammonia-based body chemistry. So unless you enjoy ingesting bathroom cleaner...

Theres two type of squid. One constantly moves around to stay at the same level in the water, and we eat them. There is another type which has lots of ammonia inside it, including Giant and Colossal squids; the ammonia allows the squid to stay level in the water without moving.
>> Anonymous
man. squids are fucking weird.

you have some the size of a nickel (cuttlefish)
and some the size of buildings (collosals/giants)

WTF. i wish we had that in more species. i seriously hope we find megalodons and giant sea serpents, etc.
