It's time for a "Weird habits of your pets" thread!

My cat fucking loves to have the inside of her ears scratched. She actually starts fucking drooling afterawhile.

She also dunks her head underneath any and every running sink several times a day in attempts to drink the water out of the drain.

Whenever she's pissed off, she doesn't hiss, but instead makes something that sounds like a pig hocking a loogie.

Will whine and cry if she can't sleep underneath the covers.

Picture related, it's Mishka.

My Manx cat, Pixie, has only drooled while being petted when she was pregnant. But she does makes a barking noise instead of hissing.Cat is fucking crazy.

My cat can open and close the doors in my house. She just slams into it until it pushes open (she does this even if it's sealed, so I leave all the doors cracked for her) If a door is locked, and she can get on a platform to reach the knob, she'll sit in front of it, and paw at the knob like she knows that's what opens it.

Likewise she can push open cracked windows, and knock out screens.

Doesn't respond to most cat toys, but absolutely loves chasing luden's cough drops -in wrapper- around the house.

One of my other two cats always attacks my feet as soon as I enter a room. I end up having to drag him across the floor.

Hops on my thigh and goes to sleep if I lay on my side.

Likes cats, loves people, flips out and goes into an insane rage if she sees or hears a dog.

my cat loves to watch TV. She just sits there all day, following the movement with her eyes and head.

My dog (pic related, it's him), back when he was alive, used to do the most hilarious shit.

In the summer, he used to spend days scouring the drive-way for sun-baked worms to eat (totally gross but it was incredibly difficult to tear him away from this activity).

In our living room, we just have a regular rug down, not wall to wall, and he would lay down near the tv on an edge of it and stick his back feet under it. Winter, summer, didn't matter, so it wasn't a chilly toes thing. The rug eventually developed a permenant flip there from him shoving his feet under all the time.

He was like allergic to the sun like me and would sneeze a couple times if a bright shaft hit him in the face, looking totally confused the whole time.

When he was younger and more agile, he ended up having a large 1.5 person living room chair all to himself. We wouldn't let him on the couch but for some reason we let him on there and he just took it over. Then if you were sitting in it and he wanted to sleep there, he would sit in front of it and stare at you til you got up. When this would happen, I eventually just moved over and made room for him and he'd jump up and we'd sit together.

Cat digs through grocery bags to find jerky. He'll take the bag out and run away with it. He loves jerky.

Likes to drink out of a trickling faucet.

Licks you when he's pissed. He's slow to anger, quick to forgive.

Freaks out when he sees a laserpen and looks around for the dot. He makes weird chattering noises.

Lies down on his belly with his hind legs straight out behind him.

He'll steal your spot in a deskchair as soon as you get up.

Once growled and hissed in his sleep. He's rarely growled or hissed at anything.

Sticks his tonuge out and makes a funny face when you blow "Listerine Breath" at him.

When excited by something outside through the windows [birds or falling leaves], he runs over to the couch and "sharpens his claws" [he was declawed...].

Here he is with my ball python. I'm not sure if my python's habits are unusual or not. But they're things she always does.

Python will immediately climb out of her cage as you put her back. As you lower her in, her head will sort of "stop" as she climbs out.

She also likes to wrap her tail around my glasses.

When you put her around your neck, she'll hook her tail around her neck, making a sort of noose.

Hermit crabs lol

Mrs. Rosenheimer tried to eat every other crab once. She went nuts for about a month and I had to separate her for a while til she calmed down.

Jane doesn't like to be on the ground. She stays in the 'trees' (hanging plants) 24/7. In order to make sure she eats (because I watch her and she literally doesn't come down) and drinks, I pull her out and set her in the food dish every couple days. She then eats and goes back in the trees.

Mr. Beetle likes to climb to the top of the cage and crawl around the edge (I have a mesh top so he can't get out), just going in circles forever.

Sportacus has no sense of self-preservation. If you're walking him on your hands, he will just bowl right over the edge if you can't get your hand there fast enough to catch him. All my other crabs sense the edge and impending doom and wait or try to find another way.

Someone decided they wanted a raisin for a late night snack and dragged it into the coco-hut. Then they forgot about it. And I found it some months later haha. It looked like a moth had gotten in and made a cocoon. ALWAYS COUNT YOUR RAISINS.

Oh, when I first got the crabs, when I put fresh food into their food shell, instead of climbing in to eat it, they'd all gather around the edge and stick only their claws in, like they were around a table or something.

When I take my socks off, my cat will run up and snuggle into the socks, and start rolling around on them. Little wierdo.

If someone scratched my cat on her back right in front of her tail, she would start licking and nibbling frantically at anything that was put in front of her. Hand, sock, cat toy, anything. I don't know what her deal was.

She also demanded to sleep on the pillow by my face. If I didn't make room for her I'd wake up with a nose full of cat butt.

I had a goldfish named Waffles. Found him in a plastic cup on campus last day a school. No idea why i took him in...

He loved the color orange. For some reason, whenever anything orange came up to the tank he would freak out acting like a dog who just saw their owner come home.

He also loved sucking on air, no matter how clean and oxygenated the tank was. God damn fish loved air. He would swallow some, and then try swimming down. He'd stop half way, and let the buoyancy would pull him back to the surface.

Whoever says fish don't have personality need to actually try to keep them some time...
I miss that little bastard.

OP here, forgot two things.

Sometimes my cat will lick either my face or hands until they're raw (it's cute, then it hurts like a bitch)

Also, she likes to spoon every friggin night. Which I guess is why she cries and whines when she can't get under the covers.

this is mai kitteh, he is :tard:

he talks all day long. which really is quite endearing. He shows his affection by licking your nose, face and hands. Hes getting to be a fat little shit though and we have to figure out how to feed him and still feed our other cat, who is wicked skinny, the right amounts
>> MiMi
>>269642
Different rooms. For skinny cat, give proper amount of regular food, and keep him in there until he eats it. If he doesn't eat it in, say, a half-hour, or eats some but not all, take away the remaining food until next feeding time. The regularity will help him want food on that schedule.

For fatcat, feed less of normal food's proper amount, or proper amount of a "light" formula food. Since he is a food-fiend, he will eat it all in a short time. If for some reason he doesn't, pick up what is left over until next feeding time. The regularity will get him on a feeding schedule. It will have him expecting food at those two (or three if you can do it) times per day, rather than eating food whenever he feels the whim, as with "free-feeding" once per day.

My cat Ruby jumps into my luggage whenever I come home from school. Any thing that smells like me, she will just sit there.

Also, when I first got her, she was interested in a flushing toilet. She would stare into the bowl amazed, until one day she got too amazed and fell in.

My Siberian Husky, Codie, is interesting as well. I call him through the screen door and he runs right into it, all of the time.

Codie also will be an asshole when two people are talking to each other, and start going "Ruuuuuh ruh ruh ruh" as if he wants to join the conversation, too.

One of the more peculiar things the dog did was when me and my girlfriend were throwing him a ball, he would chase it, but not give it back. So, my girlfriend starts petting the Pekanese (sp?) dogs next door. While doing this, the dog digs a hole behind her and buries the tennis ball.

Mishka is a small, albeit a little bit fat of a cat. She's bordering on 5 years old now. All she does is sleep; more than the average cat.

now it just wraps itself around my neck and shoulders whenever i'm at the computer.

My torie likes to do the following"

* "Sing" (purr in different octaves) while sleeping on my pillow.
- Sometimes pushes me off the pillow.
- Sometimes I fight back in my sleep, she moves to my wife's pillow and pushes HER off the pillow.

* "dies" - Dramatically goes into a room, wobbles, then lays down - usually does this when hungry to show she's dying of hunger.

* "hunts" - She has no front claws, but in a house with several cats, she's the only one that really catches them! We don't have any ice now, so she goes and gets either my wife's small stuffed animals, or her rolled-up socks (she would get mine, too, but I don't roll mine) and brings them downstairs, crying her "victory" over her "catch of the day."

* Alpha cat - She has no front claws, but even so, hits harder and faster than the rest of the cats. - even the two males that are much larger than she is. They all give her a wide berth - especially when she gets "snot-faced" - Looking like she's saying "WTF you looking at me for, punk?" like some mafia thug.

* Lies on any table she damned well pleases - The others don't lay on the tables, but She doesn't care, even when we spray her with water/punish her like the other cats that try it. We've almost given up. trying to break her of this.

This is Ivy. She loves all lip balm, but goes apeshit for Burts Bees and will run across the room as soon as I get it out. Also, we have conversations. She'll wait until I get out of the shower to come strolling into my room, and she'll look up at me and meow once like she's saying "Good morning." When I ask her if she has food, she'll reply in accordance to her needs--if she meows, that's yes. If she just kinda stares, that's, "Bitch, quite dicking around and get me food."

She also purrs and hisses at the same time.

My boy Caboose is a chatterbox, we can meow back and forth for like ten minutes and he thinks we're having a conversation.
He's also dumb as a doorknob. And clumsy too, unfortunatley it comes with being a bigass ragdoll cat ^_^
but oh so cute, just a little slooowww in the head.
He comes when called though...after about 20 seconds of staring at me, like i'm speaking chinese...

He huffs at me when he doesn't get what he wants...
He has this weird fetish for anything plastic and/or red...like those little plastic seals on bottles. He will bat them around for HOURS.
He also has a thing for dumping stuff in my shoes.
And he likes garbage bags. Anything with a dark hole o.O
He also likes the guy that plays Satan on Reaper, no idea why, but he always looks at the TV when he comes onscreen.
He's also very affectionate and follows me around like a puppy all day long. He actually gets annoyed when i close the toilet door and wilol meow incessantly like something terribly exciting is going on that we're trying to keep from him!

Not terribly unusual for a cat, he likes to interrupt whatever it is you're doing, such as reading, by crawling all over your hands.

He sticks his butt in your face a lot.

He refuses to lay down on you, just walking all over you until you're sore everywhere.

Goes in cuddly moods, where he's begging to be held, and then has moods where he yowls as if you're killing him when you pick him up.

Pic related, it's that bugger.

One of my kittens, Sarge (the silver one), is really strange.
He's a lover-boy. Gives kisses whenever he can, which can get painful!.
Whenever he goes to get a drink from the water bowl, he straightens his front legs and drags his front paws in front of it, back and forth. Almost like he's digging.
Speaking of water, he spils any cup, bowl, etc he can get a hold of. If he's not satified with the level of the liquid in the container, he sticks his paw in and knocks it over.
He likes to go outside and sit. He's an inside cat, so he never goes out alone and we always hold him. Any time we pass the back door, he stand there and meows, loudly, demading to be taken out for his daily sit.
Plastic bags. He loves them. Specifically grocery bags. He get in them and rubs his face on and sucks on the plastic. We don't let him do that for too long.

Ozzy, the older one (brown tabby), is quite a bit less strange.
He is extremely lovable, but only at night and in the morning, when I'm laying in bed.
And, when he gets startled, he farts.

These boys are aliens.

I've had a few pets in my time with strange habits:

Nin, the rabbit would:
Run around my legs in happy jumps when I let her out of her cage as soon as I got up / home from school. Sometimes spray pee from joy, too. >_> Would make grunting noises while doing so.
Push her head under my hand / neck / feet whatever to get cuddled ALL THE TIME and yet she hated being picked up.
Jump onto my bed to chill with me while I was drawing, but once almost screwed up a drawing of mine by pushing my hand as I was colouring it.

Then there's my boyfriend's kitty (picture) who has some funny habits of her own. She's 14 years old, but surprisingly active. She will:
Now and again hop on you and sleep in your lap as any other cat, but usually she only likes being pat for like 10 seconds at the time and she'll let you know when she's had enough by nibbling on you or pawing at you. I usually just pet her while counting to five in my head, then stopping.
Stroke her head / body against us when standing by the kitchen counter, only to bonk her head against the cabinets. It happens so often you'd think she enjoys it.
Her and my boyfriend can have meow to meow
conversations, too and she'll purr non-stop while lying on laps / chests. :)

Most of the stuff mentioned here is fairly common among cats. Including the posts I contributed...

Also I just remembered, when I'm in the bathroom they do that whole meow at the door, slip their paws under the crack thing trying to get in, so we've developed a little game as a result.

I get a long stream of toilet paper, and I sort of fling it and try and push part of it under the door and shake it back and forth. Inevitably, they always latch onto it, and begin pulling it under the door until it's all on their side. If I left it on the roll they'd pull the whole roll under the door.

i have a lovebird and two guinea pigs. these behaviors aren't very unusual for them, but they still amuse me to no end :o)

lovebird:
-does the puke dance. he'll walk and sway backwards and forwards, making a weird clicking noise and occasionally scratching his face with his foot, before coming up to my finger and puking. then he eats it and the dance continues. this is how lovebirds say "i love you."
-loves crawling into pouches and pockets that aren't too small. if it's too small, he's scared to go inside. but if he does go in, he won't ever stay in it for very long, he'll kind of go in and out while acting like it's the greatest thing in the universe.
-throws pens/candies/other small stuff off the table and watch you pick them up. like he's playing fetch with you!
-shakes his tail when he's happy.
-HATES toes and feet and will attack them and bite very hard.
-if you call his name when you're in a different room, he'll respond with a "peep?" as though he's asking "where are you?"

guinea pigs:
-it's normal for pigs to make a "wheek" sound when you're about to feed them, when they're hungry, or sometimes just when they see/hear you. mine will wheek but also make a very loud, high pitched PEEP. it sounds exactly like a peep. i don't know of anyone else who has a pig who peeps for food (although some peep when they're surprised or scared).

Actually i've never taken her to a professional groomer. She never gets into anything nasty, but I do take it upon myself to give her a bath every few months (which, surprisingly is extremely easy with her, she just sits there and meows, never scratches)

Other than that, I feed her a good variety of healthy food (wet and dry every day, and the occasional treat of raw meat). She's a happy, spoiled kitty.

One of my cats happily drinks out of the toilet. I have to keep the door closed at all times because there's the blue chemical stuff in it now. Same cat will also eat only dry food forever if you give it to him. The only food other than munchies that he will eat is top quality ham or turkey slices. And when you give him a slice of ham/turkey, he'll carry it around to find my other cat, and when she comes near to sniff it he'll hiss like crazy.

Other cat likes to go and lay down in the shower after it's been used, then comes out half wet and lays in the middle of the kitchen. She also likes bedcovers and will sleep for hours on top of a person, under a blanket. Despite being raised indoors all her life, she's a wild alley cat. Her mother caught, killed and brought home a baby bird, and the kitten ate it all herself at 5 weeks. Now she's quick as lightning when presented with meat and will snatch it out of your fingers with her paw curled like a hand.

Pic related; toilet cat on left, alley cat on right.

This thread makes me :3

This is my little lady cat. Whenever she does something wrong, my boyfriend always says, "That's not what a lady does." It's real cute.
Let's see, she has a habit of running up on you and licking your lips for then minutes straight leaving them raw and pink. It's adorable and I love kitty kisses |3
Whenever she drinks from water she has to stick her stupid cat hand in it like the toilet, and sh'ell come out of the bathroom with her whole arms all wet. And then she wants to run up to you and stand on your chest and lick you D:<
When she tries to drink from mugs and cups she'll paw at the side of the cup. If she's using her left hand she'll paw on the right side with the top of her hand and vice versa. She looks retarded.
Whenever I go outside she always wants out too. So I let her on the porch and she runs to the edge and looks around and then runs back and starts scratching on the door. I let her in and she wants back out right away.
Im' not sure if she's strange, but she's adorable and I loved reading everyone else's stories :3

My dog Rembrandt is a mini-long-haired-Dachshund, pic related.

He's quirky in a ridiculously cute way. If I'm sleeping, no matter how long I sleep (learned this recently when I got sick), he HAS TO BE curled up against my side, with his nose buried beneath me.

He won't eat if he has to compete for it. He's the smallest dog in the house, with the biggest entitlement complex -- he eats first, they eat later.

I have a few cat stories to tell

My favorite cat named spinx, who died some time ago was most likely an incest baby. He was born with 6 toes and 5 fingers

It would periodically follow me to the bus stop as a kid and then follow the bus for a while

would sleep in the middle of the road

uber nice to everyone in the neighborhood. i'd always get compliments about it

loved people, but wold spend almost all its time outside

was extremely strong, i'm talking about protruding muscles

fuzzy as crap

next cat is one of my newer kitties named kitty(or favrey)

When one says kissy when you first see it, it will move it's mouth toward your lips

loves everybody

plays with my turtle when the turtle is out and it's cage is being cleaned

if you stood behind a wall, and kitty was on the other side, and you sang, and hen looked at he other side of the wall, it would meow

really playful

my new kitten is a whole another story (name is ghandi)

extremely hyper

loves to play with everything

attacks by jumping up, spread its arms and spread it's legs and then latch onto to you

loves attacking my feet

it follows me everywhere

horribly afraid of heights

when it gets surprised it will buck up and down

when it getslonely it will cry and crap

sleeps with me every night

wouldn't eat the kitten food we got it, instead it goes for the big cat food

always sleeps when I play team fortress 2

pic related, its my new kitten

i've only had her for 30 hours so far, but my 9 week old Aussie Shepherd loves to sleep on my weights underneath the weight bench.

Pic related. (house just painted and carpet getting replaced)

Whenever my cat sees a plastic cup she HAS to stick her head in it. Even if it's empty.
She also likes to sleep with her face on my cheek at night. The problem is that she drools a lot when she does.

My cat would hunt like crazy and had ritualistic habits in giving the prizes to me XD

- smaller, mousier rodents (mice, voles, etc) would be offered whole on the brick walkway
- chipmunks, we only got the bottom half (presumably she ate the top), always with the stomach organ dragged out, this was usually on the concrete floor of the porch but sometimes on the brick walkway
- squirrel tails, we never actually saw the whole squirrel, presumably it was eaten, we get a few squirrel tails a summer and my dad uses the fur to make flies for fishing lol
- birds, now birds were special. Birds are hard to catch. If she managed a bird, it was left indoors on the welcome mat (the only time she ever brought a kill inside)

Rabbits were a separate matter. Every now and then she'd luck upon a nest and kill the mother and most of the babies (though she never brought a corpse home until this summer when I got this message on facebook (I'm in Japan on exchange): "Your baby just brought half of a rabbit into the kitchen. She's still got it."
Then my dog would go out and bring back the sole surviving baby rabbit and be like LOOK WHAT I FOUND LOL TAKE CARE OF IT???

I would also like to add a note on chipmunks: when we moved into my house, the area thrived with them. You could not avoid them. Then I got my cat for my 6th birthday lol. She effectively destroyed the population. In the early days we'd be tossing maybe 50 carcasses into the woods each summer. Every now and then they try to have an uprising and then she kills them all again.

She would also sit on top of the birdhouses in the spring and wait for the baby birds to poke their heads out so she could swat them out of the nest. We spent so many days poking at her with a broom handle til she jumped off and left them alone haha.

It's bad but I'm always proud of her :> especially when she brings home a big prize like a bird. She's so thoughtful, always giving me presents XD

Destroy your cat please, or chain her up.

That "uprising" would be spring, most likely, and you car cat and many others are probably effectively wiping out the native wildlife.
It's no less than a menace to wildlife and should be culled for good measure.

Don't worry. We keep her mostly indoors now. She got old (is now 15), ESPECIALLY at night. She's a really small cat to begin with (9lbs) and a couple years ago one of our neighbors got a cat who grew really large and like tries to destroy her. The final straw was when we found them both on our porch, my cat hanging onto the rail for dear life and the other cat trying to drag her down. So yeah, she's mostly an indoor cat now, much as she hates it.

you should be proud of your cat, don't listen to the whiny other anon, your hunter is doing exactly what she was born to do, and doing it well!

My old cat actually harvested the surrounding areas like a seasoned farmer of the local rodent population, one year she'd hunt east of the house, next year she'd be south of the house, then west of the house and then back to the east field. Gave time for rodents to rebuild their populations in the areas she'd decimate.

She did leave offerings too, though rarely more than the animal's head, sometimes just some random mouse internal organ.

Lolol we barely had to feed her at all in her younger summers. We'd leave food in the house for her in case she got hungry but she only ate from it like every few days sometimes. Saved us a bunch in cat food costs lol.

And as background, she did come from a farm, born and bred there, so it's in her blood to be so bloodthirsty about rodents.

My fiancee's cats all do crazy things.

Luna (pic) has chased her tail several times.
The other day, when I called for her, she meowed, and then pounced onto the corner of the wall and climbed up until I pulled her off.
She also cuddles up with my fiancee's little sister's rabbit.

Little Bear will start licking anything in front of her if you scratch a certain part of her back.
Also, if you scratch the back of her neck, she's start scratching her chin with her hind leg.

My boyfriend's mother has a cat named Mr. Fiddles, who plays fetch with elastic hairbands. He likes it so much that he'll wake you up to play at like 3 AM. It's adorable.

He's an awesome cat, you can do anything with him and he doesn't care. Wrestling, cuddling, dressing him up (his mom's into that kind of thing), he tolerates it with pride.

When I had my Paradise Fish (related to a gromi) in the same tank as my Fire-Bellied Newt, the newt would often play tricks on him. He'd wait on top of a rock or a plant, and just when my fish was lazily passing by, WHUP! he'd just off, right on top of the stupid fish.

After the fish died, it was a while before he acted the same.

Oh screw you, all the cat was doing was controlling the vermin population. Too bad she isn't big enough to eat YOU.

I once had a betta fish that would only show signs of life when I was getting undressed. I guess he just really liked boobs.

My fat kitty loves moths. He'll hunt them down and eat them and leaves the wings on the floor. Funniest thing is when he's hunting it he'll keep his eyes on the moth only and he'll run into stuff.

My Bengal kitty has figured out how to open three different kinds of door knobs. She's also a pretty mean kitty and if she's angry at you she'll actually seek out something that belongs to you to pee on.

This is my rabbit, called Baby.
He is deaf so I am not sure if he means to do this... but everytime you stroke him, put food in his bowl or touch his friend the guinea pig he grunts. He loves cuddles and always returns for more but he still grunts at whatever you do.

Rabbits usually grunt if they are annoyed.
But yeah, he used to hump the cat and the guinea pig before we got him snipped.

This is his girlfriend called Sham. She does "funkies" where she jumps from side to side while shaking her head and the shake travels down her body... it is hard to explain but she does this then runs down the garden doing little skips when she is first let out.

Occaisonally she just starts biting Baby and chasing him. Poor boy.
She loves to hide as well, and is protective over this watering can which she sits next to a lot.

Link is the epitome of awesome. He also:
+Stalks my other cat when she's under the blankets of my bed
+Is a horny bastard even though he's neutered; he rapes my fat female cat and our new kitten.
+Enjoys lounging on top of our budgie cage and looks down into it.
+Brings my whatever 'presents' he finds.. One fat mama mouse he left beside my bed, one half-dead mouse he put in my hair while I was sleeping (I woke up to find it twitching on my head), some baby mice, an earwig he dropped in my bed, and another mouse he half-maimed and dropped at my feet.. All of which is impressive considering he's a declawed house kitty.
I went into the bathroom to take a shower and he was waiting outside the door, until I asked "In or out?" to which he meowed politely and waltzed right in. I do have another cat, but she's a fatty and not as interesting.

My cat right before he sleeps he climbs on me (if I'm lying down), and gently knits his claws on my pants lots of times while purring loudly.

No idea why.

It's called "kneading" - it's a motion cats make when they make their bedding comfortable, or trying to squeeze more milk from their mother.

Either way, the reason they do this is to express contentment of "ah, I am about to be real comfortable now".

Bébé blanc loves to play outside all day, but he has a pretty bad vision because of his albinism, so he just goes out, closes his eyes and sniffs for a while.

He's stubborn and usually won't come when you call him, but he's not dumb, when I go out to take pictures in the woods, he'll follow me for kilometers, a real dog, and if he gets a bit far, I just call him and he comes right away.

My cat likes to roll onto her back and look at you like she wants you to rub her belly but then you go to do it and she tries to eat you.

Now that I think about it, it sounds like a trap ._.
