So, I want to get a new cat and I was thinking of perhaps going for a Norwegian Forest Cat.

Anyone own one and can they tell me a bit about temperament, size and personality?

Even though I don't own a purebreed Norwegian myself, I know three things: they are mellow, friendly and HUEG.

my kitty quite resembles one, but she was a stray so its very very unlikely that she's a purebred.

I am from Norway and while growing up we had 2 forest cats. Both were very kind and playful cats. They grow to be quite big so they need to eat alot of food, I used to cook fish for them everyday and they also ate leftovers from our dinners, one loved tomato soup and the others favourite was pancakes! They are great cats!

the most beautiful cat i have ever seen.

a month ago, when I saw that picture, i wanted the forest cat too. we went to a few local pet stores and ended up getting.... a shih tzu.

aaanyway, from what research i did on forums and yahoo answers and from a norwegian forest cat breeder i was briefly in touch with... forest cats are very docile, loving and friendly. they have a forgiving nature like ragdolls, and they often don't have a snotty arrogance like the persians. they get to be huge.

They're great cats. Very friendly and pretty calm. Only downside is that 'friendly' can mean 'Lies down on your chest, purring, at 5 am to hint that it's time for breakfast'. And they're a large breed, so it's pretty effective.

They are very friendly, but tend not to be cuddly (they want to be near you, but not necessarily ON you)

Why is there a picture of a random guy for one of them?

Apparently some Spanish idiot overwrote that particular Norwegian cat picture with a same-named image for this article:

I was going to be a helpful faggot and revert but the WikiCommons interface is byzantine and inscrutable, so fuck it, let them handle their own problems if they don't want a picture of "Teodoro Fernández Meyzán, máximo ídolo del Club Universitario de Deportes" in their Norwegian Forest Cat articles.
