Hey there /an/. Can anyone help me figure out what kind of a mix my dog is? He's about 110 ibs (that picture was taken a couple of years ago, he was still kind of puppy-ish).

Your pooch looks like a Norwegian Elkhound. My grandma had one and he looked very similar.

He looks like he's got some German Shepherd in him to me.

I thought that too, but I read they only reach about 50 ibs?

When we got him he was labeled as a german shepard mix. Maybe part akita or malamute??

Here's another one of my dogs too. She looks part german shepard as well, but any ideas on what else she might be? She's extremely thin and has a really hard time putting on weight. She's probably about 70 ibs.

They look like they could be pure German Shepherd.

Naw no malamute, I wouldn't say so...MAYBE Akita...maybe the other parent was mixed too. One is definitely GSD though.

Very difficult to say, german shepherd crossed with something with shorter hair is about as precise as you'll get.
Also, if the mystery parent was a cross itself, it could have looked like anything.

Doesn't look like a mix to me. Unless its shepherd crossed with another kind of shepherd.

ps: gorgeous fucking dog!

It definitely looks part Belgian Malinois.

I know, I love this dog so fucking much it hurts.

What's the big difference between a Belgian Malinois and a GSD anyway?

Congratulations, it's a DOG. He's adorable, smart, cute, and will spend the rest of his life with you. Who cares what he's made of? He's him. He is YOUR dog, a special breed that fate intended just for you, to meet your special needs and to present you with an unexpected set of challenges. He's an educator, a companion, a best friend, and will make memories with you that will last far beyond his own lifetime.
He's a dog. He's beautiful. He's wonderful. He's adorable. He's a special living being that defies genetics and classification. He's the essence of mutt, a Heinz 57 without compare. Why worry what he's made of? She's healthy, happy, and ecstatic to be your companion.

This is the post I want to make every time someone asks what kind of dog they have. It's a DOG. A retarded specimen of wolf. Cherish your dog. Love your dog. Dont wory what your dog is, because the dog certainly does not care what you are.

Also your dog looks kinda gross.
>> someone
Perhaps a husky / shepherd mix

Then use more lube, it doesn't have to hurt.

STFU. That is such an annoying quote.

OP, it's a sable German Sheperd and he's beatiful :) He probably came from a back yard breeding going for the largest gsd's they can get.

I'm going to have to agree with you. Usually BitterFag is pretty entertaining, but that was goddamn stupid.

Copypasta is like that. Its a dog, what does it matter what it resembles, once you already own it? I can kinda understand guessing similar breeds if you're considering adopting a dog, because it might give some insight into how it might behave, but if you already own and live with and adore the dog.. whats the point?

There's no harm in speculating what breed or mix your dog is. Being curious does not mean you love or value the dog any less, and I doubt anyone actually stays up at night worrying about their dog's parentage. It's not like OP said he was disposing of the dog if he couldn't figure out his origin. Also, if it is a full German Shepherd (as I suspect it is), it is good for OP to know about common genetic diseases that affect that breed such as elbow and hip dysplasia.

sounds like EPI, a genetic disease found in some GSD's. -->http://www.gsrne.org/wayde.htm
