"Maine Coons are very large and energetic cats, sometimes weighing up to around 11-12 kilograms (25 pounds); the average weight is 6 to 9 kilograms (13-20 pounds) for adult males and less (7-11 pounds) for females. Male Maine Coons may grow to a length in excess of 1 meter (40 inches); as of 2006, the longest cat on record is a male Maine Coon measuring 122cm (48 inches) in length." (Wikipedia)

They are awesome
>> Anonymous
Despite notoriously being the stupidest cat in existence, maine coons are awesome.

If you're looking in temperament, ragdoll, burmese, burmilla, bengal.

For liking water, turkish vans and maine coons.

For thick, luxurious coats, norwegian forest cats, maine coons, persians (always get dollface if you don't like the screwed up look).

For an exotic look, pixie-bobs, bengals, bombays.

My personal dream cat is a ragdoll or a bengal.

Wat? I have two male tabbies. The fattest one is around 18 pounds now, with his peak weight being 22, and the thinner one is 12-15 pounds. MY CATS ARE FAT AS FUCK

Uh, I've never heard Maine Coons called stupid before.

"The Maine Coon is one of the largest breeds of domestic cat, known for its high intelligence and playfulness as well as its distinctive physical appearance." - Wikipedia and every cat site with breed descriptions.

My Coon's self-aware. He passes the mirror test. Never had a cat this smart before.

siamese.

they are the smartest because they were a working breed many years ago. also they have amazing personalities and are far more interactive and interested in their humans than most other cats.

I have a half-siamese cat and he's a wonderful talker, and he loves to hop on my lap and cuddle for an hour.

He fits my personality of cat, really.

>My Coon's self-aware. He passes the mirror test. Never had a cat this smart before.

You know, taken out of context, this sounds immensely racist.

Can you explain this mirror test? I've seen cats that jump around and attack mirrors, but mine have always been "meh, that's me, so what?" around them.

>>295889
Bah, auto form-filler left my sagey sage in from another thread. Please excuse, this thread is great.
>> Anonymous
My cat is Maine Coon mix and she passes the mirror test quite well. Its like its not even there. Maybe she's just THAT retarded...
>> Anonymous
>>295889
demonstrates self-awareness. in human children, this is a sign of staggering intellectual development
>> Anonymous
>>295905

I've heard it argues that some cats care more about the smell of another cat than the image. The reflection has no smell, so as far as the cat is concerned it's nothing but background.

I'd want to get one of these!

I've got a grey tabby coone mix (with some brown mixed through). They really look adorable with their fluffy tails :3 Sadly, she's a bit on the small/skinny side though.

A ragdoll is fine too.

Turkish Van for me. :3 So kawaii.
>> Anonymous
Norwegian forest cat FUCK YEAH.
>> Anonymous
What about Turkish Angora?

>My Coon's self-aware. He passes the mirror test

But:

>Dogs, cats and 1 year old children, for example, usually react to a mirror in fear or curiosity, or simply ignore it.
>simply ignore it

Don't be silly, there are 5, maybe 6 species which pass the mirror test. Your dumb cat definitely not.
>> Anonymous
Are some cats less likely to scratch furniture and stuff like that?
>> Anonymous
>>296001

Those 6 are the only species that consistently pass, but some animals of the same species are smarter than others, just like humans.
