Do cats/dogs/kittens/puppies make good feeders for my scaled companions?
I herd that there is a cat and dog overpopulation problem and I hope my Tegus, Monitors, and Pythons can help "thin their numbers."

Hilarious troll, but no.

The key is to not get your pet injured. Feel free to toss him a hamster or similar rodent though.

I hopes so.
I'm sick of the little bastards that believe that dogs are man's best friends. Those sick animal-fuckers.

What about Kittens/puppies?
They are very weak and small, basically harmless and a bit bigger than a rat, so the feed moar.

I am not a troll, I have actually thought about this where I live.

Albino Burmese Python...
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

If they didn't have a tendency to be mean I would really get one.

Burms aren't mean.. lol.

Retics on the other hand..

I'd hit that.

Speaking of retics, you hear about that 49 footer they found? It eats several full-sized stray dogs a week, or something.

Ours is only 15 feet. :( Gotta start feeding him some small children or something.

apparently one of them already ate your brain

Ask your local pound if they'd be willing to give you their smaller death row next-in-liners. If your area's stray population is really that bad, there are almost certainly plenty of non-kitten cats that have no chance of getting adopted, and (dirty secret) most pounds that advertise a no-kill policy only apply it to dogs.

Some people might argue that getting suffocated is less humane than getting injected or whatever it is pounds do, but on the other hand, it is the more meaningful death, probably the most meaningful death a pound cat can ask for. Kind of like being an organ donor.

Large reptiles really don't need to eat that often. (I'm sure you know this, but I'm saying it for everyone else's benefit.)

Now, to play cat advocate, because I do in fact like cats, have you considered bunnies? They're easy to breed yourself, so you could grow your own supply. They're not usually as large as cats, but they are larger than most of the common "snake food" animals that people first think of. They're also less likely to hurt your pets. You might have to get used to the screaming though, if your snakes have a tendancy to miss the head a bit. (My old African Rock Python used to miss every once in a while and I'd have to put up with rat squeals, and I've heard a bunny yelp, and I'd really hate to have to hear it again.)

I'm afraid that will be most certainly impossible to do so since there are a lot of cat and lovers out there who might bitch out about this.

Personally speaking, I completely agree with>>85907. After all it's natural selection.

OP, how about I eat your snake? You won't have to feed it anymore, and I'll give you its remains, deal?

A personal threat to eat someone's beloved pet in response to an inquiry about (necessary) feeding of non-pet animals that are the result of poor pet care to a beloved pet.

/an/, does the cognitive dissonance ever get to you?

That's because cats make better dissection subjects for anatomy & physiology classes.
And yes, they'll make you work with kittens. I know, done 2 now.
Fun fact: you don't do much cutting with dissection, at least not when you're learning. You poke a hole in the membrane (say, skin, for example) then you stick your finger in an peel or yank it off. All the work is done with your probes and your fingersto keep the vein and membrane systems intact for examination.

That's also because most pounds get a shitton more cats than dogs, because stray and feral cats are far more common and prolific than their canine counterparts.

Is dat some goanna?

That is the most cuddly looking monitor I've ever seen. I want to hug it, its sooo cuuuute.

Also, try chickens, maybe goats. Rabbits could be another alternative too. The chickens and the rabbits are easy enough to breed that you might just be able to sustain your own food without having to buy the feeder critters.

It's a Savannah Monitor.
And yush they are cuddly.

>>85907
The only problem is, you dont' want to get one of the desiesed animals.
>> Anonymous
I am sure they do, but god so help you if you pick up a non stray on accident (say someones pet for example). not only will you reptile probably be destroyed by the local authorities, you will probably have a really nasty fine, and also be shunned by the community.

Also I don't know much about Lizard/Reptile feeding habits, but I can't think getting it use to eating typically US domesticated animals as a good idea.

'Cept for the fact that there's no reason a monitor or tegu should be getting anything bigger than a large mouse...

Go for it. For the pythons, anyhow. I know plenty of people who've done it in the past. Just serve 'em up pre-killed.

ps--Your Varanids hate being handled. They just want you to leave them the fuck alone.

I don't get it, if a dog eats a snake, then nothing happens. Yet feed a cat to a python and you're public enemy no. 1.

Try bunnies and leg-less chickens instead of dogs and cats.

Less people will hate you.
