Does anyone have experience keeping lorikeets, particularly larger varieties like the rainbow? I know they're social birds, should they be kept in pairs or are they alright as long as they get a lot of attention? I've heard they're pretty messy for their size, any firsthand accounts of this?

I've had birds before (budgies and cockatiels growing up), but nothing that requires as much specialized care as that.

No, i used to have galahs though and they chew thru EVERYTHING save wire. I had to replace their perches alot. In any case, most of the aussie parrots etc like alot of space. Get him a big cage outside mear a tree, or make sure they have some shade. Foodwise, seed and fruit is good. When i lived in Australia these guys would sit in my mango tree out the back by the hundreds, cute little beggars!
Oh yes, they are a bit messy, they poop. Alot. thus why i recommend an outside cage...with a wire grate bottom, then it just biodegrades, the Queensland rain used to washed it out pretty good too though.
