I'm thinking about getting cat
I narrowed it down to 2 breeds but I can't decide which cat breed to choose, I'm thinking about either getting an American Curl or a Maine Coon.
Which one should I go for? Any suggestions from people who already have cats of those breeds?

*very People oriented
*smart
*likes to play and be active, but not too much
*have some level of independence (so for instance I could go for a week vacation and he will be fine if the neighbors will come and feed him and change his water once a day)
*stay playful and kitty like also through adulthood

It's flat, but a rather big one with two floors. It could easily have the room for 2 adult Maine Coons.

Both cats seem well suited for your needs, but out of the two of them I would choose the Curl over the Maine simply because of the grooming thats required for a Maine coon.

How much grooming are we talking about?
I can handle a brushing session once or twice a week

Their coats dont tend to knot up, but I would reccomend at least once a week, so your good their I guess. ^_^. I would also reccomend bathing 2 a month, but that should be easy enough since Maine Coons tend to like water.

Being that you dont mind the grooming... I would go with the main coon... The ears on the American Curls bother me.... >_>

Maine Coons only require bathing if you let them get dirty. Otherwise they efficiently take care of themselves just like any other cat. The grooming session is a good idea however, since licking all of that fur is a chore for the cat. Mine used to hork up giant furballs the size of turds.
