Looks like a small camle spider to me. Not dangerous, but not something that you should play wuth either.
>> Anonymous
I don't think it's a spider. They're both arachnids but totally different.

Note: US Quarter for reference.

If I found that little guy in my bathroom, I'd put him in a nice little terrarium! :D
>> Anonymous
Definitely camel spider. Nothing to worry about, not poisonous, bite may hurt but its best interests are getting the hell out of your sight. Keep him around to get rid of garden pests, or train and use a bunch as guard dogs.

Or microwave.

Solfugids have huge fangs but aren't even venomous. You should consider keeping it in an aquarium. It's fun to watch them hunt.

Jesus fucking christ! Where the hell do you live?!?!

You need to go to a university and show a professor of biology or something! You may have discovered a new species or have a world record spider on your hands! Go tomorrow and then post back here once you have an answer!
>> Anonymous
they have a bunch of different names but Camel Spider is the most common, but can be found in sandy areas of the southwest United States and Mexico.

If /an/ does in fact, as Moot claims, have mods then they really ought to do something about this faggotry.

Solfugids eat the same things most spiders do, which is just about anything that's size appropriate and isn't toxic. You can buy crickets from the pet store, dig up some grubs, catch some grasshoppers, moths, etc. They're not specialized in their diets.
>> Anonymous
>>322909

Oh my god, anon, DO THIS.
Crickets are cheap. I get 12 for a dollar at my local pet store. This, on top of some bugs you catch, could keep it alive for a month on spare change.
Tanks are cheap too. People give them away on craigslist all the time. Or you could buy a ten gallon for a few bucks at a petstore.
Give em some rocks and wood to hide in, too.

Jesus god please keep it. Fucking sweetest-ass pet ever.
>> Anonymous
Don't kill it. That would be a fucking awesome pet.
>> spider poe
after watching that youtube video and finding it kind of cruel, i am not going to make it fight...but i don't want to keep it either cause its starting to gross me out. but i don't want to kill it cause its just a poor little lost guy. so what i'm going to do is a. throw it in my neighbor's yard unless someone wants it b. call an exterminator. i think i'm going to miss him though. i named him boss.
>> Anonymous
holy fuck. keep it
>> spider poe
i don't want it, but i if i could send it to you, i would.

>>322963

God i want one so bad...
but i live in Washington and my roomates would murder me for keeping him... but gaaaah... I dunno, a part of me finds big spiders like this beautiful.
...they're also really fucking creepy, but i can appreciate the beauty while shuddering.

thats because those kids are fags

you gotta start off which fights the spider can win

then when he has babies (cross breed with black widow imo) train them to fight bigger creatures like the scorpions

bugs outnumber us like 1billion to 1

do your part

as far as>>323064i don't know of Solfugidae having the ability to climb where spiders can't. maybe it can reach past a layer of vaseline or something on the inside of a container..other than that..... last i knew..they too were called pedipalps and are used for grabbing prey as well as stabilizing itself here and there.

backwards jumping because of it's "grasshopper" legs? so far i've never heard of anything of the sort. in fact, they appear to be quite similar to the rear legs of a spider.
>> Anonymous
>>322900

They make poor, short-lived pets. Arachnid hobbyists can't even keep them alive for more than half a year. They're awesome in every aspect apart from their year long lifespan.

BITCH PLEASE.
For reals, though, I've seen a shitload of these arachnids at the place I work in the summer, and I studied up on 'em so I'd be an informed fearful anon. They really can jump backwards over two or three times their body length, which I admittedly don't know if other spiders do as well. Solfugids vary quite a bit in size and shape across the world, so it could be that the ones I see in N. California are different than what you're used to.

And in reading about the bastards I came upon quite a few sites which claimed they used their front pedipalps in climbing. It could just be because more legs=better traction. Who knows.
>> Anonymous
>>323117
They aren't legs, they are pedipalps. Spiders use them for climbing and stabilizing themselves also. However, the primary use of them is for holding onto prey. Nothing new. Congrats.
>> Anonymous
>>323120
Solfugids have adhesive suction pads on their pedipalps. Spider pedipalps have different structures more specialized for mastication and breeding than for climbing.
>> Anonymous
Here's a little tidbit on spider tarsal pads http://www.springerlink.com/content/xg652512705mg116/

My point about them using their pedipalps for stability comes from handling them regularly. You can see and feel them use them..as well as their own fangs from time to time.
>> Anonymous
For the love of god don't keep it. If you keep it, one day you will wake up/get home and the cage will be empty. That will be the last time you sleep for the rest of your life.
>> Anonymous
solifugid. Camel Spider. Ugly as bloody fuck, with huge fangs, but pretty harmless.
>> A-bomb-anus
KILL IT WITH FIRE! Spiders creep me the crap out enough, if i saw this i would want to shoot it from a distance, or shoot myself!

i let the little badass mofo go, he ran like a bitch.

Oh dear jesus fucking christ I hate these things.

I live in southern Nevada, and they're all over the bloody place. The other day, a baby one crawled across my desk.

I didn't put my feet on the floor for an hour.

This from someone who would go out in the desert and catch lizards, snakes, tarantulas, and scorpions. I love creepy-crawlies, but these things are abominations that don't deserve to live.

Little bastards are vicious, too. Try to swat one, and it will fucking CHARGE at you.

Solpugid; it has a p not an f.

Wind Scorpions native to the Western Hemisphere. You're lucky, I rarely seem them, however I live in the South where Black and Brown Widows are extremely rampant

tl;dr I HATE WIDOWS (scapegoat for nationalistic rallying and superiority for other insects rather than just one species i.e. German Nazis)
