Would I be wrong in assuming this shit comes from Japan? I can't be sure since there is no-one sticking the cat's head into their mouth.

Actually it originates in Australia, I think.

I had no idea this crap could even exist. The company says "This patented system was designed by a team of veterinarians, animal behaviorists and engineers for the well being of pets." Clearly, this "team" was carefully selected and well paid. This sort of crap upsets me.
Anyway, here is a sweet kitty.

The thing is, I can see cats needing mechanical help to wash, but dogs?

Alright, but cats don't need washing unless they're muddy or contaminated. This thing is designed for mainstream use, not special circumstances. It completely ignores the animal's fears for the sake of human laziness and convenience. Promoting the bathing of cats unless they are filthy is nonsense, and only dirty money-grabbing. Also, traditional ways of washing dogs, such as hydrobath or hand-washing are far more thorough and targeted - little or no water in the ears, nose or eyes. If water in the eyes and nose is painful for humans, it can be assumed that it is painful for dogs and cats also, not to mention, frightening.
