dear /an/
i have this baby corn snake that looks the same as the one shown in the pic. it likes to climb up to my head & stay there. (in fact its doin that now) i used to think that its because it likes the relatively high temperature of my head, but it turned out that it likes to stray there regardless of the temperature of my head.
any thoughts? does it love me like a dog love its owner?

It's very cute looking.

I think it loves you like a man loving his whore.

I think it loves you like how this snake loves its mouse.
>> Anonymous
I'd like to know how op got the exact temperature of his head.
>> Anonymous
I don't doubt it feels some sort of affection for you. Cherish it.

Snakes don't have feelings in their tiny primitive brains, it probably just wants to be up high and the temperature of your head is just a bonus. Corn snakes are really cool looking, I like the black and white scales on their undersides.

My snake won't allow my parents or my friends to touch him, only me. So I guess they do have some affection for there owners.

<-- I think this was the first live mouse I fed him, shitty quality.

My snake knew who I was and wanted to be with me. Once at the vet he was taken to the back to get a shot. When the vet brought him back he was constricted around the vets arm. As soon as he saw me he let go and "ran" across the table to hide around my neck. The vet laughed his ass off and said in 20 years he had never met a snake that knew it's owner, but that mine obviously did. There were lots of other things too, but that one was witnessed by a herpetologist vet

Snakes like to be up high to observe their surroundings and the warm temp. And how the hell does your head change temperature? Unless it drops below 80 degrees (you'd die) it's still warmer than anything around you.

Also all of my snakes come to me. They associate my smell with security that's all. Nothing to do with feeling. The other people smell different than you. Does it know it's owners? You could say so. It knows your smell, and that you are a safe place. As for affection, scientifically they have none. But anthromorphization is for cool dudes.

Perhaps it would be helpful if you could define "feeling". I have seen a lot of things that made me wonder. I have a turtle right now that will answer to her name and will do begging behaviors that she made up to get food. I realize that her brain is tiny, and reptilian, but anyone can call out her name, nothing to do with scent, and she will turn around and look to see why she is being called. She does not answer to just any name, only hers. She expresses excitement and anticipation when she is hungry and I am getting her food ready. I am sure that it is not all reflex. I have never even considered behavior modification, she just does these things. And a lot more. So in the end, who knows. I just err on the safe side and treat her like she means it and we both seem happy. But then I may have to have you define "happy" for me as well.

I recently got my very first corn a few months ago and she VERY much enjoys my head as well. I've seen many snakes snooze on their owners heads. I can say one of the main reasons is definetely the heat. Snakes, just like any other pet, can grow attached to their owners, even if they don't show it easily.

I think something you snake owners should try is... add an old soft piece of cloth or clothing to the snake tank or enclosure. Make sure the fabric is nice and cuddly, and clean without buttons or zippers and such. Wrap the piece in crazy folds so that your snakey can crawl inside it easily and be completely covered. I recently tried this with my girl and she LOVES IT!! I used a few old black socks I had and it's so nice, dark, and cozy warm for her! She feels safe and secure.

snakes like you as a source of heat and security. really, they're not too different than humans or any other animals, they're just not pretentious about it. And does it matter? as long as you're both happy, who gives a fuck?
I love my corn snake, she likes me as a source of warmth. we're both happy. do you need anything else?

Fuck no. Just thinking about any kind of UV rays makes me cringe. An inconsiderate friend once got me a fucking gift certificate to a tanning salon for my birthday. I paid his hospital bills for his.

Moar of spotted snake.

Also, that rattler had just been fed and was hand reared, so I probably wasn't in a whole lot of danger, but I'm still a wussy.

I didn't even SEE the spider till just then. Good eyes, Anon! Here is another with the spider in it, just for you.

I appreciate the thought, but that is the snake oil of Lupus treatments. It's one of those treatments like the herbal supplements or "lotions you rub in" to make your dick bigger. Sure it might work for some people, but there is no scientific basis for it. /derail

Its a spot where it feels out of danger, where its natural predators cant get to it.

But yeah, it will be like a dogs spot.
