Agree with whoever said $15 is steep if you're going to attempt to get rid of them by placing an ad in the paper.
I had luck getting rid of my rat's litter after calling quite a few pet stores; finally found one that agreed to sell the babies as pets, not feeders. Elementary school teachers, too, were interested in taking a pup as a class pet.
Just some ideas.
Also, I've never experienced the mother or father turning hostile towards the offspring. As long as your parent specimens were sociable to begin with, then I don't think you'll have a problem keeping them in common living areas.
