Ok, never even visited /an/ before, but I needed some help, so here goes.

I have a dog, right, an American pit bull terrier. And we made this pen outside so we can go off and leave her but she doesn't have to be inside. This pen just so happens to be near my bedroom window.

In the morning, I always get up and put the dog in the pen cause I can't be fucked to walk her. Problem is, she eventually starts barking nonstop, presumably because she wants food. Now, it's really fucking hard to sleep when a dog is barking its head off outside your window.

How the fuck do I get her to stop doing this? She stops barking after I bring her some food, but this has only been going on for a few days now, so it shouldn't be that hard a habit to break. Right?

What the fuck? Don't tell me this board is like /g/ where you're more likely to get bullshit, elitist responses, and trolls than actual help.

Want an answer to your problem?
>cause I can't be fucked to walk her.
Or feed her BEFORE she starts barking. Feeding her after she barks shows her that she'll get rewarded with food for her behavior.

So, feed and walk your fucking dog.

Putting her in the pen has the same effect as walking her, she does her business in the pen all the damn time.

No, tard. Walking provides important EXERCISE for an energetic dog such a terrier. She's barking because she's bored and under exercised. You should walk her a good HOUR before putting her in the pen and again for at least another hour later in the day. See also, jogging, fetch, and other activities. Bored penned or tethered dogs will bark nonstop for lack of anything better to do. Take better care of your dog.

You are NOT well versed in keeping dogs, are you?

You do not walk a dog simply to let them do their business. It is exercise. Unless her pen is very large, and she has toys to play with, i can't see your excuse for not walking her.
Even dogs that have a large pen, really do need to be walked daily.
Don't believe me, ask around. Google it. Talk to other dog owners.

Maybe "walk" was the wrong term to use there. In the morning, I take the dog out so she can do her thing, then I would bring her back inside. I am not going to go for a long walk around seven in the damn morning, when I'm not ready to get up yet.

I do, however, take her for actual walks or jogs when I go to the local park. It's just not something I'm going to do the minute I wake up.

Thanks for the clarification.

When do you normally feed her? When does she normally get a walk?
Try sticking to a strict schedule. Dogs are pretty smart, and have a good concept of time. If you tend to feed and walk them at the same times, they'll know to wait for these times.

Try feeding her BEFORE she starts barking. If she starts barking and then you feed her, she's learned that barking = food. It'll be damn hard to get it to stop then.
If she still barks even when you brought the food before she started, try just going out there and telling her "no" and "bad dog". Then, reward her later for not barking.
