Why do dogs hate the mailman?
With any dog I've ever had, they never really barked at anyone but the mailman. Just now the poor guy was afraid to come to the door because my dogs went batshit insane(funny as hell though watching him inch closer lol) and I've never seen them act like that with any other stranger.
>> Anonymous
My old dog would do that to the UPS man until he got hit in the head with a clipboard. After that he'd hide when he saw the UPS truck. He once broke a chain to get to the meter reader. I have two dogs now, one of them will only bite children or short people, and only if they touch her ear. The other one is somewhat retarded and runs up and licks people. Constantly. My mom had to keep her away from the satellite installer because she would not stop licking his legs.

I'm sharing early morning newspapers as my summer job, and luckily I haven't had any problems with dogs yet at least. Except with this one door in an apartment house. As soon as i stick the newspaper in through the door, I hear awfully lot of scratching and barking and growling from the other side.

Freaks the shit out of me every morning.

you should pee through the mail slot to serve him right >:D

>>113561
Is the mail slot metal? The dog will probably be as close to it on his side as possible, and a good old Tazer current might reach it.

Dog will be scared of the door for the rest of it's life.

I deliver pizza and dogs are usually very friendly to me. Mailmen should try harder to smell more like pizza and less like creepy old people.

one of my old dogs got peppered spray by the mailman. she broke through the fucking door.

it didn't stop her from trying to go after the mailman though.

Your dog bites people and animal control hasn't come to take it away yet?
>> Anonymous
>>113827
not every dog doesn't bite and just because a dog has bitten someone, doesn't mean that someone is going to sue or the dog deserves to be put down(does not include maulings and serious wounds).
>>113544's dog has a pet peeve and doesn't like his ears to be touched. some things will just set certain dogs off.

If a dog bites someone, his owner needs to be beaten about the face and genitalia for doing a horrible half-ass job of training and keeping control of their animal. Also that scenario involves the dog taking control of the situation outside of the wishes of the owner (who should be the alpha animal), which also goes to show that the owner is a bitch, and the dog knows it and is taking advantage of it.
>> Anonymous
>>113862
I agree, and I'd like to extend the beatings to people who:

a) talk on their cell phones in public such that other people get to hear their oh-so-important conversations

b) drive while talking on their cell phone

c) raise children that pull pranks and commit vandalism

>>113862
because any dog that bites someone is the owner's fault %100.

its not. while it is the owner's duty to properly train his dog, shit happens. you'd change your mind if your dog bit someone. again, i'm not talking about if a dog mauls the shit out of someone or rips off their hand.
i have a dog, nicest thing ever. she's been trained, never acted aggressive to anyone and never bit anyone until one time i a fireman dressed in a gear visited the house to talk to my father and she bit him. unprovoked but after that one bite, she was fine with him. never happened again either. doesn't mean it was my fault.
>> Anonymous
>>113884

It means your dog considers herself to be the alpha (since no submissive dog will act outside of the instructions of her superior). I'm sure that it's not your fault that you are the bitch of the relationship.
>> Anonymous
>>113894

agreed. anyone who can not control their dog doesn't need to own one, and even rare or ocassional biting can lead to instances of mauling or serious attacks if left unchecked.
>> Anonymous
>>113894
bullshit. she's a rescue dog who had been beaten and abused. if you raised a hand, she'd cringe and roll on her back.
she still does cringe sometimes and goes down on her belly when someone, anyone walks by. and still, just because she bit someone that automatically makes her the alpha? i think not. she shows no signs of dominance. she even stops eating from her food bowl when someone walks by until they give her a positive response as in to give her an O.K. she's no alpha.

You know what's funny about OP's post?

Dogs go after the bloody mailman who may not even ENTER your property (if you have a mailbox by the gate, that is), but I've never heard of dogs going after the bloody MILKMAN, when the dairy goods are delivered right on your doorstep.

WHY is this, Anon?
>> Anonymous
>>113884

Of course it was your fault. It was your fault becasue you did not have your dog under control when a stranger came to the house.

Aside from the possibity of biting, it's just plain rude to your visitors and guests. The last thing they want is some strange mutt (to them) coming up and bothering them.

Pack mentality in dogs places the alpha member (male or female) at the head of the pack, and no submissive dogs will show aggression without the say-so of the alpha. However, your dog is obviously fucked up in the head (like a sociopath human), and does not play by or understand the "rules" of the pack. Therefor, you should have exercised greater control in her handling, i.e. DO NOT leave her free to roam your house if there are people she is not familiar with around! Take some fucking control and responsibility over your animal. Put her in a separate room or tie her up when you have company. There is never ANY excuse for a dog biting someone who is not an immediate threat or in a confrontation not initiated by the owner.

Yes, it is still your fault. Keep tying to dodge responsibility for your animal's actions, and scenarios like this will keep occurring. Eventually, it will happen to the wrong person and you will end up with a fine, extensive veterinary bills for medical quarantine, or a dead dog. And it will still be your fault.

No one loses or wins arguments on the internet, fuckface. Even insinuating that these little pissing matches have "winners" and "losers" makes you a class-act idiot. Cry moar to your dog. She already thinks you're a bitch anyway.
>> Anonymous
>>114224

because "you can't control a dog, it does what it wants to, you are a loser if you think you can keep control of a dog" is a much more convincing argument than "you need to take responsibility for your pet's actions." congratulations, you are the winnar!!

My friend has two chiwawas(sp). They'd both bark loud when there was company over her house but would keep their distance. One of them, however, will sometimes get aggressive for no particular reason. He had a bad habit of biting peoples socks or grab their pant leg.

One day when I was over her house the dog was going crazy and had bitten almost everyone in the house (except my friend and her parents). When the bastard made a move for my foot I kicked it in the face (lightly as possible) and it rolled around then ran away whimpering. From thence forth the dog would sit rather obediently when I'm around, but go back to it's ways when I leave. The other dog just barks.

UPS and mail men are prime targets because of the way the aproch your house. Same gose for meter readers. And why it dosn't apply to pizza guys.

That being weather or not you are there and aware of the stranger. If you order a pizza you are prolly expecting the pizza guy afterall and are most likely home. Being the Pack leader the dog will submit to your alowing that person on the land. Smelling like pizza likely helps a little.

The UPS/Meter/mail guy, on the other hand, will brazenly walk on to your property without your aparent permission. The dog is then left with the choice as to alow this transgression or defend the territory. And will by instinct defend the territory by instinct. A dogs past memories about encounters with the UPS/mail/meter people will influance his future interactions. And so the best way to help your meter people is to greet them the first several times they visit your property. Ensuring the dog is with you when you do.

That dose not gerentee anything. But it should help.

neat advice. dunno how one predicts the meter or mailman coming though.

>>114716
Great advise. It is best to socialize your dog with as many people as possible from a young age. This means, obviously, your family (wait, this is 4chan... Oh well), your neighbors, children, mailman, meter readers, etc. Yes, sometimes dogs do act out and do something unpredictable, but the truth is a lot of that bad aggression can be prevented by getting the dog to know lots of other people.

Now on the other hand, if someone is beating the shit out of you, it is good if your dog can retaliate. This is one of the good things about having a dog to begin with. You don't have to train him or her to be aggressive, but if your dog bites/mauls someone who is trying to beat/kill/rape you, then I would say that is a good thing.

Anyway, enough of this. This thread is now about Fishing Cat.
