Sup /an/?

This is Ninja, my sister's kitty cat. She has fleas, and a flea collar was used but she had almost an allergic reaction to it. She was salivating and defecating on herself while it was on. Has this happened to anyone? And what is recommended for fleas on cats?

Any cat allergic to flea collars needs to be put down, or at the very least sterilized so that it cannot pass its defective genes on to newer, better cats.

For a short term solution use capstar tablets, they start working within 20 minutes and kill all adult fleas within 24 hours also use a spot-on treatment like advantage to kill/sterlize the eggs, then treat the animals environment
Frontline is carried around the body by being aborbed into the oils in the coat, like flea collars. Other flea treatments are absorbed into the fatty layer under the skin and seem to work longer.

flea collars contain horribly toxic chemicals that seem ti impair pets more than they kill fleas. Kitty needs a bath, then a good topical flea treatment, either Advantage or Frontline.

A vet visit may be in order to ensure that neurological or organ damage wasn't done by the pesticide on the collar.

Actually I meant that by washing the cat you would be removing the oils from the coat and making Frontline less effective.

If it's frontline you're looking for, you can order it from here, save a trip to the vet. This is the site i order my pet meds from.

ah, very true. Though in the case of cheap pesticide toxicity, I always recommend a bath to remove the harmful product, frontline can be applied as soon as the coat is fully dry and be highly effective, I believe that the textbook wait time post bath is either two or three days. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

My dog is largely an outside dog except when it rains/snows or is cold out. I use frontline on her and she is 100% free of fleas. Love that stuff.

I use topical flea meds like frontline on my dog because she would always throw up any of the "by mouth" products. She used to be on a heartworm/flea medication combo pill (can't remember for the life of me what it was called) and was fine for awhile, but when she turned about 6 or 7 she would become violently ill every time she took them. We just assumed she developed an allergy...so now she gets a Heartgard/Frontline combo.
