I had 2 pet rats one died just last month from a neurological problem and the other has a larger tumor on her butt. I took her and her sister to the vet a little over a month ago and the vet told me that because of the location the tumor couldn't be operated on.

Well now within the last week the tumor has started to expand very rapidly. She use to be a tad over weight but has been now losing weight. She also keeps biting at the tumor and it has lost some hair. She can still walk around though and doesn't seem to be in pain. My question is when should I take her to the vet again? The vet isn't going to be able to do anything besides put her down. I don't want her to suffer but I also don't want to put her down too soon. What do you think /an/ how long should I wait before taking her?

Picture of her from earlier this summer.

if she's biting at the tumor and she's been dropping weight, then she's probably distressed or in an amount of pain. hairloss is also another sign that she is in a lot of stress, possibly from pain. take her to the vet again and see if she is actually hurting or if her symptoms are dangerous. you should be able to determine for yourself what you should do then. obviously it won't be easy for you, but it's probably the best thing for her.

so sorry for your other rat, also. ):

Yeah, if she's biting at the tumor than it's certainly bothering her, and if it's bothering her than it is time to say good-bye. So sorry, OP.

Take her to another vet and get a second opinion. I don't understand how a butt tumor can be inoperable; it's not like there are major organs in your ass.
