Hey /an/

I have had many fish in my past life and have found out that i am bad with them, they never live too long =[. I am more interested in a pet rat but sadly i still live with my parents (many reasons why) and they refuse to let me have any type of pet other then a fish. So since i am so fail with fish, i want to get a couple that are easy to maintain, live for more then a month and wont hide all day and night. I have had some kind of shark before that i loved but for some reason my mom brought it to the store and left it there, i have no reason why she did it. So any info would be nice and also i hate goldfish since they are quite dull.

pic unrelated

Also i didnt re-read what i wrote b/c its fuckin 2:45 AM

It's not that hard if you do it right.

All fish fit into this category. You're just doing something very, very wrong.

>>but for some reason my mom blah blah
Then why are you going to try and get fish again? Is there any guarantee this isn't going to happen with these?

>>goldfish
Not good aquarium fish, anyway. What, were you trying to keep these in a bowl?

Why don't you tell me what you're used to dealing with? Are you actually willing to set up the kind of habitat fish need to survive? That is, a 10 gallon tank or larger, with filter, heater, substrate, decoration, hood, and light?

Because you're 14?

1. Aquire a fine net.

2. Go down to the most polluted, oxygen-starved, glorified drain of a creek you can find.

3. Insert net into water. Repeat step 3 until results are had.

4. Take home three or more mosquito fish. They're indestructable and practically imortal and will shrug off the attempts of the most determined anon to kill them. They can be starved, the tank water can go green with algae, there can be no DO whatsoever and the little bastards will still outlive you.

Okay, sounds like your first problem is that your not cycling your tank.
http://faq.thekrib.com/begin-cycling.html
http://www.firsttankguide.net/cycle.php
Your fishes waste is accumulating and the filter isn't taking care of it because it doesn't have the bacteria that neutralizes the ammonia the fish piss out.

This is why nothing you have in that tank lives past a month. They all die of ammonia poisoning.

That being said: get a school of Zebra Danios. Very hardy interesting fish. They chase each other all the time, and never stop swimming around the tank.
Lots of kinds of Danios. Zebras will probably be the cheapest. .99 - 1.50 each. Get a school of 5 or more.

(Also, fish will hide less if you put up a background and a couple of plants or bogwood. They wont feel so exposed and insecure.)

Also, weekly partial water changes. I hope to god you were doing them.
Can't let a fish live in the same water it's been eating, breathing, pissing and shitting in without changing some of the water.

That'd be like putting you in a room with no air circulation, expecting you to breath, eat, and shit just fine.

tbh ive never understood how people can screw up with fish, a little advice ( stuff that i do that works for me )
- dont clean the tank too often, the fish, or other things in the tank, like the algea where it is, and some fish burrow, so you dont want to destroy their home
- dont remove too much water, while the fish grows they release substances that basically tells them how much room they have in the tank, and it will stress them more if they keep having to make it more often
- never take the fish out of the tank they will shit bricks and stress out hella bad, took me a while to realize this one, lost many a good fish while i was younger
