So my cousins daughter choked herself on a car window this week. I went in and saw the body and my entire family is weeping over it. The next day my new kitten (pic related) was suffering due to either FIP or a hemorrhage in his diaphragm and they had to put him down. I bawwed for nearly hour over the kitten and didn't shed a tear for the girl. Am I a terrible person /an/?

no lol. Basic human psychology. We limit our empathy so we can really feel about things that we consider important (close to us) instead of being emo about the millions of people dying constantly.

Why was she trying to eat a car window and doesnt she know to chew her food?

poor kitten ;; I'm almost tearing up just thinking about it

so you obviously had a closer relation to one of your pets than your cousins daughter.
Just because you were related doesn't mean that you have to baaaaw like the world is going to end in the next 2 minutes.

>>289186

Partly because you bonded closely with your kitten than your cousin's daughter, and partly because you perceive the daughter's death to be stemming partly from her own stupidity while the kitten was a victim of chance.

Only people who think that animals in general deserve more sympathy and empathy than humans is a terrible person who probably has no qualms about harming other people. For exmaple, Animal Liberation Front and PETAfags assaulting and harrassing people "for the welfare of animals".

I found a flaw with your argument.

No, you're not a bad person. I'm sorry for both of your loses. That cat is very cute and he obviously holds a much more relevent and important place in your life than the human girl did.

I know I cried for weeks when my dog died. Then again, he got hit by a car in front of my house on my birthday and I had every reason to be distraught. People reminded me that he was only a dog, but he was also a major part of my every day life. Living without him would change my life, for the worse, in a very big way. Living without a human relative that I don't see every day would not have nearly as great an impact.

I still cant figure this out.

No, a person that is stupid enough to be choked to death by a car window should not be mourned.

I can't either.
Plz explain, OP.

I think maybe it was an electric window, and she pressed the "up" button while sticking her head out.

How old was she OP?
>> Anonymous
>>289326
I'm guessing that she was sticking her head out the window and put the window up a bit too far and couldn't get it back down.
>> Anonymous
1. open window
2. stick head out
3. activate electric window things of an ancient car with no safety
4. ???
5. choke yourself to death
>> genghis763
So, people place themselves on a higher level of consciousness/existence/ whatever than animals. Why? We are not all knowing so how do we know this is certain.
I wonder if it has ever occurred to most people that believe this, that the only time you've ever been told/ educated about this was from another human being?
Think about it.
Personally, i think it is more than likely the other way round. Animals make for far better honourable souls than humans do, and have a fair amount to teach us.
If we'd only bloody listen.

Unless she was a child this is hilarious. You'd need to have very stumpy arms to not reach the button.

Btw, is very cute cat. lol stumpy arms

The big question is how many cats do you have compared to cousins daughters? But seriously, how old was the girl and where were the parents? It's sad to hear about your loss, it's hard to get over a loss like a kitten but there are many kittens out there that need homes.
>> Moo !XBOXgikTFw
No worries! It's only natural to care more for something cute/attractive!

It's hard for me to cry over anything. so im a worse person than you
>> Anonymous
kinda know what you mean OP

I didn't shred a tear when my grandfather died
but I cried a river when my Playstation Memory Card got corrupted

was mainly because I was little but....
>> Anonymous
Both species improved with the deaths you described, OP. What was the girl's name so she can be nominated for a darwin award?
>> Anonymous
>Unless she was a child this is hilarious. You'd need to have very stumpy arms to not reach the button.
Too true, I honestly think the maximum age for something stupid like this to occur is 8 if even. I feel sorry for you losing your kitten, but as far as the lil' girl go's...who cares...its not as if she was a part of your everyday life... If you wernt emotionaly connected to her then you had no reason to cry, also you could partially balme yourself for you kittens death, as in you think you could have done something about it.
>> Anonymous
I would've cried over the kitten instead. The kid was probably a horrid little shit and would grow up to be an ignorant selfish fuck. We don't need any more of them.

My brother almost choked on a car window once.

in b4 'that's not funny, my brother died that way'

/an/ is a usually safe haven from the horrors of the other boards. Usually.
>> Anonymous
I agree with most of the others here, you were close to your kitten. It is not surprising you did not feel as sad for your cousin's kid. In fact I would suggest giving your cousin the evil eye any time said cousin carelessly leaves one of their kids alone without supervision.
>> Anonymous
OP here, the kid was 3 and my uncle left her in the car while dropping off some food for some old people. My cousin lost custody of her because he and his wife are coke heads so my uncle was taking care of her. Yes she stuck her head out the window and closed it on herself. Needless to say they were degenerates.

Also they gave him back to me while they were preparing the solution, he was crying and writhing in pain due to the pressure in his chest. And they let me be there to pet him while they gave him the injection. I stayed in the car and bawwed like a faggot until I was able to drive home.

No, you're not a horrible person. Like some have stated here on /an/ you were closer to the kitten than the Tard Child. My great aunt, who was technically more like a grandmother because she partially raised my father (he was an orphan) and the wolf-cross I had since I was 2 died basically within weeks of each other.

I didn't shed a tear for the old woman, but I cried like a baby when we had to put Eclipse down to sleep.

Hell, even though she could barely move, she was still keeping watch over me while we were waiting to take her into the vet. She was even growling and snarling at the other dogs protectively.

She was the most awesome dog ever and I still mourn her.

I really don't miss the great aunt.

Misplaced grief. I'm sure seeing the dead body of a 3yr old didnt phase a tough guy like you.

YES! This needs to be a Darwin award.

There are equal amounts of particles in either living or dead beings. No need to grieve.

>choked herself on the car window this week.
Wat. No seriously how the hell did she manage that?

But you're not a bad person. I didn't cry when my grandpa died but when I found my rabbit ( which I've had for about 8 years ) dead I was a mess.

It determins who means the most to you. In your case it was the kitten.

Srsly read the thread before posting.

She basically stuck her head out the window and the window went up and it choked her until she suffocated.
>> Anonymous
>>290278
Seriously learn how to spell the word. Internet fag talk like "srsly" isn't gonna have people respect what you have to say. Type the whole word out, it isn't that hard to do.

>>290278

Still a fucking for not, you know, lowering the window herself. Don't even tell me she couldn't do it, if it went up it was electric, and thus she was one button press away from living. And if it was one of those types where only the driver can lower the windows, then the stupid asshole driving is to blame.

So yeah, I would be more sad for the kitten too.

I would hate to see you father any children because you obviously expect three year olds to completely look after themselves. Do you also yell at toddlers for not being able to clothe themselves properly?
>> Masterwork Bastard !wl59mComes
>>290345

No, I expected some fuckwit to be more sensible than leave a three-years-old alone in a car. Thus I presumed the said toddler must be at least... well, older. Now I can only conclude the said cousin, who was also a fuckwit, deserved the tragedy.
>> Masterwork Bastard !wl59mComes
Oh, and to contribute to the thread. No, you're not a horrible person. If I head my cousin's daughter or one of those two dipshit sons had gotten themselves killed, I wouldn't even shrug. Didn't give a shit when my grandfather died, couldn't bring myself to care at all when I heard my grandmother from the other side had died. And try as I might, I just couldn't care when I heard my best friend from school hit a wall on a motorcycle and smashed his skull.

But my dog. Now that's another tale entirely. I cried like hell when she got hit by a car.
