killing a tree Anonymous
/an/ the neighbors have a tree and they don't fucking take care of it hence all the leaves end up in my driveway and i can't see shit when i'm getting out of it cause dam tree is in the way (it's a sloped street)

what's the best way to kill the dam tree that doesn't involve crashing a car into it or sawing it
>> Anonymous
Set it on fire

something less obvious, it's not my tree
also it's the tropics, it won't catch fire easily
>> Anonymous
dig some dirt up around the root system and put down about 10 pounds of salt close to the roots, water it it lightly, but don't over saturate. Tree will be dead in a few months. Nothing might grow there for a while either.

Tell them to take care of the tree.
If they won't ITS A MATTER FOR THE COURTS

way to waste taxpayer money by bringing something as stupid as a tree to the court system

drano on its roots.

thank you all

Be sure they don't know you HAET the tree, or you'll end up in court this way too.

Buy copper nails and hammer them into the tree. Very effective killer and hard to spot
>> Anonymous
Salting the land is a stupid idea as it basically fucks it over for a good twenty years. I'd go with copper nails or just sawing it in half in the middle of the night. A sludge hammer works well too.

Remove a ring of bark around any part of the trunk. It can be very thin, just make sure it's a complete ring. It's been a long time since high school biology, so I can't remember if this keeps the tree from transferring water or food, but either way, tree = dead.

gotta be about an inch deep, but you're right, you basically disrupt the cambrian layer, tree can no longer feed itself. The only problem is it might be noticed.

And that is where the copper nails triumphs. Hammer them deep enough so you cant see them and the tree will die without anybody else knowing why

This thread is making me really sad :[

Poor tree, what'd it ever do to deserve this?

grew up in the wrong part of town.

OP back, it's not even a big tree, at most 11 feet tall, it just drops leaves all year long and it's at street level, so almost half of the street is occupied by the tree and when i get out of the driveway i can't see shit in the direction of the tree
>> Anonymous
You know, if it's actually out in the street like that, you could probably call the department of transportation and see if they'll come trim it back, since it's kinda their job to keep the roads unobstructed

no, there's no sidewalk here, and it's in their lawn just a foot from the gutter
that's why it needs to be a non obvious death
>> Anonymous
wtf? how do you "take care of" a tree?

>oh fuck, i forgot to feed my oak!!
>> Anonymous
>>236003
If it's obstructing your vision or dropping leaves in the road, then they'll probably come and cut it for you.

A far simpler method:

Get some Roundup herbicide or a generic equivalent. Make a hole or cut into the trunk or a large root at the base of the trunk, and apply the concentrate directly to the cut. The cut must penetrate the bark and go into the living wood of the tree.

Dead tree.

op here, yeah that's the method we had so far but a drill is kinda noisy lol

many thanks to all for the suggestions

MINIGUN.

girdle it.

OP, why can't you TALK TO YOUR FUCKING NEIGHBORS?

Unless they're rednecks who don't give a shit about their yard or you, I'm sure they'll hear you out.

A hand drill wouldn't be a bad idea, but you could also use a machete or something similar to make a cut instead. It doesn't have to be a huge hole, you just have to get past the bark into living wood. If it's a thin-barked tree you could make a suitable cut with a pocketknife.

Girdling it would, of course, work. But, it's a lot more effort than roundup, especially if it is a thickly barked tree. It also leaves a rather obvious clue that someone was screwing with the tree. It would work but it's far from an optimal solution.
