>> Alaska puts $150 bounty on wolves Anonymous
Updated: 9:43 a.m. PT March 22, 2007
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The state is offering incentives for people who kill wolves in an effort to boost Alaska's predator control program, which so far has failed to meet expected numbers.

"Several factors have led to a low wolf take this winter, so we're going to step up our efforts to meet the annual objectives in this important program," Commissioner Denby Lloyd with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game said in a statement Wednesday.

The program, now in its fourth year and operating in five areas of the state, is designed to increase moose and caribou numbers by reducing the number of predators.

The incentives include offering 180 volunteer pilots and aerial gunners $150 in cash for turning in legs of freshly killed wolves, Gov. Sarah Palin's office announced Tuesday.

The state will use the left forelegs of wolves as biological specimens, which can help biologists determine wolf age and will assist the program in the future, Lloyd said.

Yeah, but you get in trouble for shooting those.

I want to go and make a wolf cape, too. It would make furries really mad, and that's what counts.
>> Anonymous
>>73871
Furry here. No it wouldn't. That shit only makes PETA fags angry.
>> Anonymous
>>73893
Actually, that's a good litmus test: if it makes PITA kooks angry, it's the right thing to do.
>> Anonymous
>>73935
Oh yeah I love making PETA people raged. Just had to let them know not all furries will bother. Though I do know some crazy furries who would go off in a whirlwind of drama about wolves.
>> Anonymous
>>73941
And those are the ones that throw the best drama fits on the internets. I should post that nice silver fox pelt I have one day. But I'd never post anything to a furry board, so I guess the point is doug.

>> Anonymous
All of you shut it!! I'm sick of you damn lower 48ers telling us Alaskan what we can do. We are NOT your personal national park! The wolves are killing moose and there are too many wolves in ONE AREA and so if they are not thinned more wolves will die long painful deaths by starving. So again STFU and leave my state alone.. That is all
>> Anonymous
>>74188

We kill moose/and many other animals too but do we have a bounty... what about those poor little moose on the side of the road.. opps. but we don't eat them, they just rot there.

And it's any better being shot in the face or cut in a lung? Not every hunter kills a wolf quickly you know.

Great. They'll most likely slaughter too many wolves, and then there will be moose/caribou overpopulation.

FELLOW AK CHANNERS IN DA HIZZLE

Seriously, if you're not from here, don't even act like you know what is going on.

Newsflash, Alaska! No one gives a fuck what you think about anything, because we're all laughing at you for living in such a frozen shithole.
Last time we culled wolves (down here), we ran OUT of wolves, but your guys won't let that happen, right? One can only hope, but they DO live in Alaska, so who KNOWS what kind of judgement they have.

This state(Alaska) is the size of HALF the CONTUS. The hunt is only in one small area not the whole damn state... damn 48ers

Here's what we do to enable any animal species to increase their populations. We offer rewards to wolves and such for bringing the left arm of a freshly killed man to the proper authorities in return for $150 in beef cuts.

Not only would it decrease the spread of man, thus stopping the destruction of natural habitats, the wolves and such are well fed so they don't need to hunt quite as much :)

Alaska = 63,267 sq mi
Hawaii = 10,931 sq mi
The United States (not including Puerto Rico, etc) = 3,718,695 sq mi
Following this, the size of the continental U.S. = 3,718,695-633,267-10,931 = 3,044,497 sq mi
3,044,497/2 = 1,522,248.5 sq miles

1,522,248.5 sq miles = a whole hell of a lot larger than Alaska's 62,267 square miles.

I'd suggest you look at a map before making such an outrageously false claim like saying Alaska is half the size of the continental U.S.

Alaska's huge, there's no doubting that. But Americans in any part of the country have the right to be concerned about the ecology of all of our country. Its because we haven't been concerned in the past that the ecological health of the country as a whole has declined.

This whole, "You're not from my state, you don't have a right to say anything" is pretty flawed logic.

>>74979--> Continuing my thread!

So far, no one who is for this bounty has claimed so in an intelligent way that would disperse the feelings most of us have towards this decision, which harks back very closely to the bounty put on wolves across the entirety of the U.S. as late as the 1960s. That bounty, btw, almost eradicated wolves (grey and red) from the United States. The red wolf populations still haven't recovered and we have Mexican wolf populations still struggling to stay afloat. In the continental U.S., wolves no longer live in the majority of their historical habitat ranges and are limited to certain areas where recovery efforts have occurred.

This bounty follows the actions of the declassifying of the grey wolf as an endangered species in the U.S. Some states where recovery has been particularly harsh are already trying to push through legislation which would allow hunting of wolves with bounties attached and could very quickly lead to the species' status as endangered again.

Perhaps, given this information, you Alaskans can understand the concern felt and perhaps react a little more intelligently and a little less "GTFO!"

But then again, this is the internet.

Yes, because teaching animals that food will be given to them and they don't need to hunt is a great idea.

I love irrational anti-humanists.
