Hay /an/. Found this on /g/.

Red budgie. Does not compute. Theories?
>> Anonymous
... ah, right, got it like five seconds after poasting... it's not a damned budgie at all; see the broad tail and lack of budgielike forehead.
>> Anonymous
Is it that weird? I'm sure I've seen pink ones.

It's not the same species as the more typical budgie.
It's called a bourke's parakeet.

Pink doesn't occur in melopsittacus undulatus. Different combinations and shades of green, yellow and blue (and their absence, white), yeah, but not red or pink.

Must be some other species of "parakeet". Damn yanks, overloading words willy-nilly like that...

a parakeet is any bird with a certain kind of beak and tail and stuff.
just like a molosser is any kind of dog with a big solid build

simple enough to understand..

Yes. I meant that to an american, "parakeet" and "budgie" are used interchangeably whereas an european might make the distinction that parakeets are a group of species which the budgie (i.e. melopsittacus undulatus) are a member in. Perhaps it's just me, but this sort of thing bugs me somewhat hard.

okay yeah, I see what you mean.

You're annoyed by it? You don't have to live here. When my 'fellow Americans' talk, sometimes I want to tape their mouths shut and beat them with sticks.

Only sometimes?

Well then, I guess you have some more work to do, eh?
>> Anonymous
They aren't Budgerigars, but are related.

Can they breed with one? I'm assuming they can.

I have duct tape to.. to tape something.
>> Anonymous
>>163161
Quite useful for taping stuff, that duct tape. What did you have in mind?
>> Anonymous
>>163159
No, not really. Budgerigars don't interbreed with, well, anything. (I'm not sure if this has more to do with their biology or character.)

>>163129
Yeah. Guess what? International board! Whoop whoop! Lol, yanks r teh buttz.

It is not a budgie. It's a australian neophema parrot: Rosa Bourke's Parrot, genus Neophema or Neopsephotus

They are often thought to be budgies
