Ok /an/, I have a problem. Considering your love for cats, I'm assuming you could help.

I got a new kitten a few days ago. He's the runt of the litter, and the cutest, tiniest thing ever. However, for the past 2 days his stool has been watery, and an orangish yellowish colour. He goes maybe about, 7, 8 times a day. He's still chipper and playful as ever, but I've never seen stool like that in a cat before.

Is this normal for kittens?

What could it be?

What's the best foods to feed him?

Is there anything I can feed him to harden his stool a little?

I'm taking him to the vet asap.

Pic unrelated.

How old is the kitten, and what are you feeding him?

6 weeks or older. I WAS feeding him Science Diet, due to how much praise my friends vet and a cat "Expert" sang to me, but, I found through research how crappy it is. I just bought Blue Spa and mixed it in with the science diet, for a smooth transition.
He's been weened.

that's what I was thinking. Idk when he may have gotten it though. When I first got him, his first poo was fine, normal. After that, it went down the drain.

If kitty's problems have started since you've started swapping him over to the new food brand, that's probably contributing to the problem. Try reduce the amount of the new food when mixing with the old a bit more - kitten's stomaches are very tetchy, and prone to producing the most foul smelling expulsions as you're no doubt aware of.

Has he been dewormed? You can get Revolution for kittens, which I used on my foundling kitten with no issues.

Potty Color Guide
Any of the following require that kitty receive IMMEDIATE medical attention
Bloody: red blood in stool may indicate panleukepenia (distempter).
Black: possible bleeding high in the bowel.
Mucous: slimy substance may indicate severe bowel irritation.
White: possible serious bowel infection. High risk of death.

The following may require that you seek medical advice:
Orange: means there may be too much bile in stool.
Yellow: is indicative of a bacterial imbalance in bowel.

Take him to a vet, but I'd say as long as he's still jumping and playing around it's probably not anything too serious.

Look into pet insurace also. I had to fork out a grand due remove hairball from my cat once. $20 per fortnight means that'll never happen again.

he hasn't been dewormed yet. He's so small... I'd feel more comfortable waiting until he's normal size for his age.
Unfortunately, I do not know what dry food he was fed before I recieved him. He went straight on Science Diet, and just today I started introducing the Blue Spa. I do feed him a little wet food once a day.

However, my boyfriends mom came over and fed him Cow's Milk the first day I got him. I thought that was bad... she assured me it was fine.
Could the lactose have upset his stomach so much the diarrhea has lasted this long, and still not improving?

Noooooooooo cow's milk! Keep that woman away from the kitten!

In regards to the milk still affecting the kitten - nfi. But still a good thing to keep well away from him.

Is he still drinking water?

Yes. I know diarrhea can dehydrate the little guy very quickly. I've been putting water in with his dry food, to soften it up, and then adding extra water so he drinks it down before he gets to eat the food.
he doesn't like drinking water on his own from a separate dish. He only drinks it in with his food. :[ I've been checking his skin turgor and bottle feeding him water once a day, just to be safe.

is it ok to give KMR after he's been weened?

as far as i know

OP here. He still has the runs. No change in behavior at all, he's playing with my older cat vigorously right now.

I'm beginning to think it may have been caused by a change in food.

I did feed him some KMR to try and get more fluids in him.

None of the vets around here are open on the weekends. If he doesn't clear up, vet on monday.
