Hey /an/ I have a question about dogs. My friend has a little terrier-y looking dog that she got about a year ago, and their family is yet to train it. It's main issue is barking. Whenever we take it out to walk, it /will not/ stop barking. I'm pretty good with dogs, but barking is just one thing my dogs have never had a problem with, so I don't know what to do.

Is there a way to train him to not bark at everything that moves, without going to a trainer?

Pic very related.

My friend had a dog that barked all the time and they got a collar for it that beeped whenever she barked...

it may have also delivered a slight electric shock... i don't remember.

Shock collars are cruel, maybe you should call a vet or get a book on training dogs and see what you find out

Sometimes they are the only thing that work. My parents' beagle went through several collars, the kind that were "humane" and sprayed citronella out when the dog barked. After the beagle got used to THAT, he would NOT STOP BARKING. So then came the shock collar. Even after that, he growls just enough for a slight shock, and after a while will wear the battery down. In short, it depends on what your dog reacts to.
