Well, I was going to suggest fire, but that would kill him.

You could try cheese sticks, I suppose. Or maybe ice cubes.

a human corpse.

Quit being a cheapass and buy him a little wooden house don't buy a plastic one since he will probably try to chew on it and it won't be good for him.

well, I'm gonna get one of those for him, of course, I just wanted to make something more personal in the long run

won't he eat the wood though? or should I just bow my head and understand that anything that I SHOULD buy for him he should also PROBABLY be able to eat, eventually?

and in that case, what about his food dish??

ceramic food dish

guinea pigs have no emotions

they don't even feel fear or try to run

enjoy your food

just go with a wood house; it doesnt matter that it will chew on it cause thats good for their teeth

+1

Exactly.

Wood is safe as long as you don't get chemically treated wood.

They'd probably eat wood, so I'd go for something ceramic or glass-like. I have had 5 guinea pigs, used to use cardboard, which isn't that bad and lasted a bit. Still going with ceramic house-shaped things, and line it with cloth.

wouldn't cloth or cardboard possibly be just as bad, though?

by cloth I mean a towel or something. lining the bottom of whatever fort you end up getting with a facecloth or something normally makes them actually use the house thing more. >_>

I did not know these things, thanks b/an/ed guys!

ITT cans it be guinea pig tiem naow, plox?

Also you might want to buy some wood blocks for it because a rodents teeth grow its whole life time so it needs something to chew on to trim them down a bit.

It is OKAY for guinea pigs to chew on wood. It's also OK if they eat it. It's not toxic, it's just fiber.

As 136162 said it's actually healthy for them to chew on wood becasue it keeps their teeth worn down.

Wood = rodent safe

My suggestion is to just buy a hidey home for your guinea pig at a pet store. You can get homes made out of edible material that your guinea pig will love.

Forge it from steel quenched in the blood of heroes.

Guinea pigs need somewhere to hide out of instinct.
My pig has a medium-sized plastic igloo, she never leaves it unless I call her, or she hears a bag rustle. :3

Is they eatable? I think they are?

You mean like hemlock?

....Nope, no toxic wood anywhere at all.

I thought hemlock was a plant?

Some woods can be unhealthy for small animals, but that tends to be the strange, exotic, woods. Commonly found wood is not going to hurt rodents.

And actually, hemlock is not posionous to many animals. (though I have no idea if it is harmful to guinea pigs)

Mine reacts to bag rustle too, I wonder if its out of instinct or if the sound just irritates them. Or maybe they just associate the sound with food since I keep the food pallets in a bag next to the cage so it can hear the bag rustle when I reach in to take a scoop.

I had a friend who used a coconut half when the piggy was very little, and after a few weeks they upgraded the little guy to an untreated pine-wood "honeymoon hut" he made himself.

when I build hutches for my flemish I try to find houses pre1900 that are being torn down in my area the wood is garenteed not fire treated and you can usually get it for a song from the wrecking crew (if they even make you pay)
