dear /an/
I'm a long time lurker on this board and i like
to post from time to time but a few things have been bugging me for a while, They are as follows...

First of all im tired of seeing threads saying "OMG K GUYZ I WANT <INSERT WILD ANIMAL HERE> AS A PET!? WERE CAN I GET ONE? DO THEY MAKE GOOD PETS" NO! They fucking wont make good pets! there wild for a reason! stop being a retard you cant have a fox/whale/polar bear for a pet you stupid bitch

Secondly people asking about ferrets, They are stupid little creatures! they chew up everything they come in contact with, bite and smell like urine! Buy a ferret if you want your house to smell of piss

Next, "PLZ NAME MY PET LUL INTENRET" Threads, You really need someone on 4chon to name your pet? You really want 20 suggestions like "mudkipz, cuntbubble and cockmonlger"

And lastly GOD DAMN CAT THREADS! Ok i like cats as next as the next Anon but how many cat threads do we need a day? No one finds your cat interesting (unless it looks like Hitler) stop posting cat in every other tread, keep it to one thread!

That is all

while we're at it, why not stop with the "what animal is this??" threads. Giant Isopod, Momonga, Mantis Shrimp, Axolotl! LEARN THEM, NEWFAGS!

Also, get with the suspended disbelief of 4chan:

1. Where do you think pets came from? They sure weren't born domesticated long ago.
2. Ferrets are actually quite intelligent, can be trained to use a litterbox quite efficiently and easily. They only chew on things you let them get to. Ferret proof the place you wanna keep them.
3. I agree with you here, op. People need to use their own imagination when naming their pets.
4. Another agreement. Cats are good for once in a while, but there need to be fewer and farther between and need to avoid the macros and reposts.

Well op it seems we are split 50/50 here.

Agreed on all points.

Where do you think pets came from? Animals kept as pets either found their own way near people thousands of years ago (dogs, cats) or were originally kept as food (guinea pigs, rabbits, pigs etc). The only major exceptions are smallest rodents and most birds and reptiles. You'd need generations and generations of selective breeding to turn a wild animal species into something suited as a pet.

Fuck you and your fucking first-thread attempt

You can totally keep a fox as a pet, you just need a huge enclosure.
I love cats and have one myself, but I agree that we don't need 10 cat threads. Keep it in one thread.

I don't discourage the 'stopping asking how to take care of <INSERT WILD ANIMAL HERE> threads. At least people are ASKING for information, care info, etc instead of just going to buy it and winging it. Lots of people own wild/exotic animals that are happy, healthy and general nice pets. I would love to own something like an opossum, raccoon, bobcat, etc but I would only get one if it was injured and couldn't be released back into the wild.

People also need to stop just posting random pictures of their dog/cat just to show them off. Don't post your goddamn pet unless its awesome(two heads, smiley face pattern, etc), you have a question about said animal, its a reptile/bird(fuck you guys there is not enough) or in one of the 'post your pet' threads.

Everything else OP said isn't worth replying too.

gtfo, sageing won't have effect unless people answer other subjects which is rare enough on /an/. Also, stop trying to look badass-angry for no reasons.

Now what was your point? go ahead and take part in the conversation if you disagree with anything.

Here's my contribution:
there are two really shitty behaviors on /an/
-people showing off their pets
(except for stuff like glaucoma cat etc)
-reposts of those axolotltllblb and the strange head, and everything you think NO ONE must have seen before, I mean, it's not like this was the internet and a message board you know, no one must have realised how FUNNY those looked.

You can keep a fox as a captive animal in a cage in your yard, yes. You can't keep a fox as a real pet, unless you happen to be a lucky owner of one of those siberian domesticated foxes.
>> Anonymous
>>139787

I have known two different people who have kept foxes as pets and not as, as you put it, captive animals in a cage. They were given mostly free range of their human's homes (in both cases along with other pets/dogs), and were also harness trained. They were both fur farm rescues. One was a black phase red fox, and the other was an arctic marble red fox. They were both surprisingly tame, although one was extremely rambunctious and the other was more well-behaved than most dogs I know. Neither were smelly or destructive to their homes, although I have heard many people complain about both of these problems. They are easily remedied with neutering and training.

Neither were Belyaev silver foxes, which is what you were referring to. They required a lot of time and effort to tame and train, but it can be done if you are an experienced handler and have plenty of time to devote to your pet.

It looks like they grabbed it from some alley and locked it indoors.

Thus making it a pet.

Technically terrarium pets are all wild animals. However, if you mean pets as in touch, handle and cuddle pets, a domesticated animal is far better behaved, and less likely to maul you in the long run. Dog bites show that even domestic animals are sometimes unpredictable, however.
