Hey /an/

My new house has fleas and it is driving me and my cats insane. How much is an exterminator and/or is there a cheaper way to get rid of the fleas myself? In b4 burn your house down, blow up your house, flood your house, move, get rid of/kill cats, etc.

Thanks

1) Treat your pets with the usual flea control stuffs. Aside from the usual ointment on the neck, there's a type of pill that causes your cats' blood to turn poisonous so the flea drinks it and then dies.

2) Spray the vacuum cleaner bag with insecticide and vacuum the house every fucking day. When done, throw the bag away. If you have a cyclonic bagless vacuum cleaner, make sure to spray the filter with the insecticide and empty it every day.

3) get a sack of celite. It's a type of earth that is used as a drying agent. This can be found at one of those huge hardware + gardening stores like Home Depot. Sprinkle that shit everywhere using a sieve or a flour sifter, leave for a week then vacuum. Rinse and repeat. WEAR GLOVES AND A DUST MASK when handling celite. Depending on where you got it from, it can contain powdered glass, and also, because it's an extremely effective drying agent, you don't want it near you. You're also better off locking the cats away in the bathroom at this point in time.

Aside from treating your cats, get some boric acid and sprinkle that everywhere. Also vacuum daily.

I actually have Tile, and no vacuum cleaner. I was thinking about getting the capstar (the pill you referred to) But it is only a temporary solution (and is also $45 a pill)

Is there a pet driendly version of that celite stuff?

No vacuum cleaner? WTF DUDE THIS IS THE 21ST CENTURY. It is the GLORIOUS vacuum cleaner that eliminated the human lice and human fleas. I don't care if you have fucking tile, Vacuum cleaner heads now have a sweeper function. Also, I am pretty sure there are cheaper brands of the flea pills. I got mine from my local grocery store for $15, two pills.

And look, celite is probably the safest thing you can use. Any number of insecticides can be harmful to cats which are sensitive to it, and while boric acid isn't harmful to humans, I am not sure about the cats. Once it's actually on the floor, unless your cats decide to be retards and lick it and get dehydrated, there should be no real issue.

boric acid is a white powder used to kill insects by fucking with their gastro tracts. Ask your local pharmacy. it has medicinal uses, so they probably keep a stock of it, or can order it in for you.

what you need
1. desk lamps
2. white ceramic plates
3. water
4. dishwashing liquid

fill the plates with water and add a drop of dishwashing liquid to each to reduce the surface tension (so fleas can't swim out of the plates). place plates around the house and put the lamps over the plates (fleas attracted to heat, jump towards it and land in the plates). Leave your house for work/school/whatever and come home to plates full of dead fleas.
