I want to give my male bunny a companion, but would it be better to neuter him first, or just separate them both?

just have sex with your bunny

^_^ Bunny kisses.

For one, all animals should be neutered/spayed unless you're planning on breeding them. It lowers the risk of a lot of diseases and cancer, not to mention unwanted babies.

Male bunnies also tend not to get along very well with each other, if you're buying him a boy friend.

Also, what would be the point of buying him a companion if you're just going to seperate them?

Well, I thought about getting one new cage with a compartment separating both from each other, but they'll still be able to see each other through the wire.

I think it would just aggravate the animals. I agree with>>47203, as testicular and ovarian cancers are the leading causes of death in most other domesticated pets.

An unaltered male will be agressive and territorial. He will spray all over the place to mark his territory. Defintely neuter him.

This is entirely true for all cats, dogs, horses and most other domesticated animals. However, rabbits are EXTREMELY sensitive to barbituate seditaves, and when sedated for neutering or spaying, can often die on the table. Not to mention, some breeds can actually shock themselves to death from the fear and pain. Be very careful what vet you choose, and make sure they have plenty of experience with rabbits.

Yeah, I read about that. Which is why I'm really hesitating towards the neutering bit. I love my bunny and don't want him to die. But I don't want him to be all alone either...

Neutering it won't make it taste better. Wasted money, if you ask me.

Definitely worth asking for a bunny-savvy vet. And they definitely need to be fixed unless you intend to eat them soon enough.
