Anyone here on /an/ keep lovebirds? I've become really interested in them as of late and am trying to learn as much as I can about them. I am still in college so it's impossible for me to get any sort of pet right now but down the road I would be very interested in getting a Lovebird. So, any experiences or anyone know much about them?

My grandmother used to have one, and it was kind of aggressive. Still, it was pretty cool. It would fly around the living room and land on their chihuahua, which was like, morbidly obese, so the chihuahua would get pissed at it but was too lazy to do anything XD

yeh..they are generally not very well tempered

we had two, and they had sex all day everyday, seriously. the female would try to get away but the male would just force himself on her, rape much?

My 4th grade teacher kept one in the class. It would bite a lot, but it was generally friendly.

I'm looking into buying a pair right now, but they're hella expensive. :/

I forgot, my cousin has one too and supposedly it's pretty nice. He said it hardly ever bites but it makes a ton of noise.

liek ZOMG inorite?!1eleven XDXDXD

Poor thing finally lost some weight over the past few years. And apparently it isn't too abused seeing as it's 16 years old and still runs around and plays. I'm still wondering how it isn't dead yet, I thought smaller dogs didn't live as long as larger dogs. Or is it the other way around?

There's supposed to be some formula for telling how long an animal can live by it's size, but birds ruin the formula.

If you ever do get a lovebird make sure it's hand raised. Taming them can be a bitch.

Smaller dogs live longer because they have less stress placed on their internal organs by size. small dogs tend to live around 14-16 years, large dogs like danes and mastiffs are on average only around 8-10.

We had a German Shorthair Pointer live to 17, it's a decently big dog. Nothing as big as a mastiff but some of the larger breeds can still live pretty long lives.

How much are you seeing them for? I forgot to check last time I was in Chicago Reptile House. I'm gonna go look at them again next time I am in town but I have been trying to find prices online until that point.

We ave two.

One (male) is as nice as can be, though he does try to have sex with your hair :(.

But the other one, holy fuck. It's a god damn hatebird.

If you hate it so much, grill it for a romantic candlelight dinner with a loved one.
