Getting a Pacman Frog Munch Munch Munch
Anyone have any experience with pacman frogs? I have a 10 gal aquarium and I'm down with all the basics of care. They seem a bit boring though...sitting around and just waiting to be fed.

I know they're "cool" cause they eat live mice and anything else they can fit in their mouth, but besides that, what do you think?

I had one that looked just like that picture. He was eating hoppers (baby mice with fur and eyes open)after a few months. He was the coolest pet I have ever had but one winter, I was out of town and my douchebag roommates didn't pay the power bill and he froze to death. I was extremely pissed off. I fully reccomend them though. Excellent pets.

That sucks, but nice to hear you enjoyed him. I have this 10 gallon aquarium that I wanna put something, but fish suck and anything else needs a nice sized terrarium and I'm not in the habit of putting my pets in less than acceptable homes.

Do want.

The only reason people get these things is to watch them kill mice.

You're bad people. Seriously.

I'd get one because the albinos are gorgeous.
And they're fucking cute. I mean, look at them.

yeah, get one. they're cool. They used to carry them at the aquarium store I worked at. I took care of them and it is fun to watch them eat. I fed them crickets because the fuzzies were primarily for the snakes. Wouldn't put more than one in a tank though, they will try to eat each other... eventually...

If watching something eat turns you on that much, try a pet banana spider. Feed him moths and such.

Easy to take care of. Eats a lot. Doesn't do much else.

I purchased an albino pacman frog a little over a year ago from a local Petsmart. I put it in a tank with a much larger native Northern prairie skink. The larger skink was eaten in less than 2 weeks by frog.

This is grob at about 9 months eating a furry.

I accidentally turned my frog "Grob" inside out about a year ago.. after it ate a chunk of plastic bedding, it seemed uncomfortable and tried to push it out of it's mouth. I tried to help it by pulling gently on the plastic flora, and apparently it was attached to it's organs.. after about 20 minutes of panic and frog blod, the pacman ate it's own organs again and deflated. I'm not joking.

Grob still happily lives on. All he eats now are live furries (baby mice with fur and closed eyes) and nightcrawlers. He croaks occasionally in the evening (they are nocturnal) - it sounds like ducks flying overhead. He's an awesome low maintenece predator of a pet.

They do need frequent cleaning and expensive lighting tho.

Why would you have plastic bedding to begin with? I heard soil, coconut shavings (bed a best) and reptile bark are usually the best...although I question the large chunks of the bark as it seems a swallowed piece would fuck up the frog just like your story.

now I use only natural plants, soil, and branches (bamboo and stuff too). Back then, I was still feeding my Grob crickets, and had a mostly aquatic tank.
I purchased these small, rounded plastic plants called "cricket savers" that the crickets would wedge themselves in so as not to drown. Grob must have seen movement in one and tried to injest it.

Also, he's lunged at my cat before hungrily. I once fell in love with a pet mouse and kept it as a pet.. but my pet cat didn't like it much (or too much)? after a week or two I fed itto Grob.

I'd like to find more rescourses on Pacman frogs croaks/chirps/noises.

Also, I hear that the males get 5" wide (grob is about 4 now) and females get about 7". He lives happily in a 7 gallon tank, only moves about once a month

For anons comment I post another Grob pic, right after he ate a mouse (sorry for the blurra)
