Funny as hell, it's time to feed my snake, but there's a mice shortage over here. I can't find a single shop that carries mice.
I suppose I can get a very small chicken for it to eat, but I have to go kinda far to get it.

So I just went out and gathered a few frogs. Each is the size of the snake's head, maybe a little bit smaller.
Think it'll eat, /an/?

That depends. What kind of snake is it? Was it wild caught? Are you sure the frogs are not toads and are not poisonous?

In short: No, I doubt your snake will eat it. I really doubt all the pet stores around lack mice either. Maybe you were being really creepy and they didn't want to sell them to a wacko?

If it's a ball as pictured, my money will be for yes. These buggers, in my experience, are willing to eat just about anything if they're hungry enough.

Artemis, my first ball, a female who's now about 16, had a dry period of food when our usual breeder was moving, and in that time there was enough space for about three feedings, where she had two chicks, two large goldfish (meant as feeders for chinese water dragons) and a rabbit... kit... pup... thing.

However, there is a great risk that these frogs could have ingested something that could harm your snake when she in turn ingests them.

And, like Bitter Anon, I HIGHLY doubt there's not a pet store around that doesn't sell mice. And if that doesn't work, look for an independant breeder, or other members of the herping community that breed their own mice, maybe you could strike some sort of bargain.

But still, age and species of the snake would help.

I don't live in America, where the pet stores are friendly and the lab mice plentiful. There's ONE store that carries mice here, and they have none, I checked the cages first.

And they're very small toads.

Oh, and it's a Boa, not a Ball. But although they're not highly-toxic toads, they probably secrete nasty shit. Thanks fro bringing that to my attention.

Might be good?

Can they eat eggs? I know some snakes do, and that'll surely be better than a potentially poisonous toad.

I believe they can't, or don't.

OP here: Rodentpro is no use, I don't think it's very wise to have mice shipped internationally when there's perfectly good mice in every trashcan here.
At any rate, problem solved with a very cute baby chick. Not only was it almost six times cheaper than a mouse, but by the time the snake actually ate it it was driving me up the wall with it's goddamn chirping. I still feel a little guilty, I suppose.

Now all that's left is hoping it doesn't regurgitate, the chick was slightly larger than what it usually eats.

be very very careful around finding snake food

my brother, back maybe 10yrs ago, had a small snake i dont know what name in russia, and he tried to feed it petstore frogs. They turned out to be of toad variety and the snake died a horrible death of poisoning/starving to death
