Dear /an/,
My dog's back is sore. She's half dachshund, and due to a past experience with a dachshund's back going out, I've never allowed her to jump off the couch or off the bed or anything like that.
Lately she's been running around outside a lot and we have stairs. Today I came home and she was walking very awkwardly and slowly. I took her inside, and she's been shaking a lot and when I picked her up, she didn't rest on me, she kept herself suspended. Also, when she walks, she rests her front legs on the ground. She's never done this before.

Should I take her to the vet right away,/an/? I'm really scared that her back may give out and she'll be put down or confined to a wheelchair.

:[ I'm scared.

Pic related, it's her.

i have a dachshund who started doing the same exact things about 2-3 weeks ago, when taken to the vet i was told that dachshunds, especially older ones, are prone to developing a disease that essentially causes the vertebra in their spine to start fussing together and though it is usually relatively painless the bones can often catch nerves and thus cause pain. so yes, go to the vet asap, the disease has no cure but you will most likely get some pain meds for the dog to help.

Something similar happened to a dachshund I had a few years ago, and we had to put her to sleep. Take yours to the vet as soon as possible.

You said she's been outside a lot? Any chance she could have been hit by a car?

Could she possibly be arthritic? Our 15 year old cat has arthritis in his hip. We give him glucosamine and he's much better as long as he takes all of his medicine.

I really hope your puppy feels better!
