does anyone here own any koi? I'm seriously considering having a koi pond installed in my back yard. does anyone have any advice?
also, make sure you build it well the first time. i'd suggest a skimmer rather than a bottom drain, but in any case, trying to retrofit anything into a pond is a bitch, and will likely lead to leaks.
Koi are expensive
How do these taste?
>>61703this is true. less so if you buy them small, but still expensive for a pond fish. if you aren't too obsessed with appearance, feeder goldfish are cheap and tough, and can grow quite large. you can also mix them with koi.
>>61707probably exactly like the common carp, as they are the same species
and it taste good too
The wikipedia site on Koi is actually pretty goodand has links to some Koi care websites and organisations. If you have any quetions, just e-mail them
