Do these birds make good pets? Because it would be fucking awsome to have one.
>> Anymonous
Yes. But you have to keep them happy and have to donate much of our time to them, or they'll start to get loud and annoy your neighbors. And they'll die because nobody cared for them.

And they get really old.
80 years and more.
Problematic if your pet survives you.

who wants a needy, childish, flying bolt cutter for a pet?

you can clip there wings so they cant fly, my uncle has one and it walks everywhere

Try out a parakeet first. If it dies, nobody will feel bad, because smaller animals don't have souls.

That's really retarded.

Psst, the feathers grow back eventually.

I think these animals are for barren women and older folk with empty nest syndrome.

I recommend a parakeet too. Not because they're small and don't have souls, but they're small and cute and very jolly and affectionate. Plus, when they get "loud", its a really sweet chortling noise that's pleasing. Not a screamy whiny demanding squawk that's deafening from next door.

Truth. My grandma has a pair of parakeets, and when they argue it is the lulziest thing ever.

Agreed. LOUD AS FUCK.
I went camping and this guy brought his and an amazon parrot. They were so loud, you could hear them outside of the campgrounds. One guy was threatening to kill them if he didn't shut them up. Lulz.

Parrots also get very emotionally attached. You leave for more than a few minutes, they usually start freaking out and going desperate for attention.

Well can a parakeet talk? TITS OR GTFO BITCH!

Largest bird we have is a Congo grey and he's crazy neurotic and a long time feather plucker. He's gotten loads better though and Congos are known for being temperamental but I don't know much about the larger macaws. Why not get a mini macaw? You sound like you're new to parrots and a big fellow like that really isn't for a beginner. It's sad to see them get shuffled from home to home because someone nabbed im as an impulse purchase.

Actually, yes, they can if properly trained.

I've had one of my parakeets for over 4 years and the little shit won't say anything.
How rare is it for them to talk?
>> Anonymous
>>159591

It's pretty rare to have a female who talks, simply because they are the quieter and less sociable of the sexes in the wild. Males are more likely to learn to talk, but not even all males will learn. It takes a LOT of work and effort... or you can buy one of those training CDs of various phrases to play for the little bastard while you are out.

NO. If I could bold and make this in huge font I would.

The bigger the bird the bigger the turd.

Doesn't count because their shit is all wet and messy.

Its horrible.

OP, if you've never owned a bird you should start with a smaller bird such as a cockatiel. Male tiels are generally good talkers. Mine can say or whistle about 25 different things.

The thing with large parrots is that they're not really domesticated like cats and dogs are. Macaws brains are still programed to life in the wild. Captivity makes them bored and distuctive, and coupled with thier strength...o.0 I'm not saying I'm against keeping them or trying to breed tamer ones. Just take a realistic look at them before you get one.
