Hello /an/. Well, my birthday is coming up in two months, and I've been doing alot of research for a pet, and have decided that either a garter snake or pair of female leopard geckos is/are right for me. Here's my question: Which one tolerate being handled more? I'm not asking for a super cuddly pet, just something that's more likely to be mellow when I pick it up and not try to maim my hand. I know how much leopard geckos typically are, but how much is the average garter snake?

Thank you.

*tolerates

Oh yes...and even though price isn't too much of an issue, which one is less likely to make a dent in my wallet? A few mealworms a day sounds more money friendly than 10-15 guppies a week. I might be wrong when it comes to the amount of food, but it's what I've read.

Leopard geckos are probably the chillest reptile I've ever owned. I pick my male up on a regular basis and he is totally content to just chill on my shoulder. I've had garters before, and though they're fairly calm, they have their occasional moments - though that may just be me. It's ultimately up to you, but my vote is for the gecko.

Also, my gecko gets two small crickets a day. I buy about 30 every other week and keep them in a tiny terrarium with some cardboard tube and Flukers. Costs me about five bucks a month.

Garter snakes are stinky, go with the lizard.

They're only stinky if they feel threatened and spray you with musk.
