Hey /an/ I just rescued a kitten today from in front of my work, whole box of em was abandoned. I believe it's an american short hair and it looks to be 5 weeks+. I just have a few questions though. The kitten seems very boney when I feel it, is this signs of food deprivation? Also the kitten hasn't pooped all day since rescue is this normal? It pee'd in the litter box I have for it but that's about it, it's eaten food too.

Prolly just stressed out...should return to normal within a week...however my kitty died last week and had a boney back but had a fat tummy...from either kitty luekemia or liver disease. Should take it to vet soon!

5+ weeks is perfect, they should have been *just* weaned from momcat and at the right age to bond with you.
Feeling bones is okay, seeing them is not so much. Don't give her milk, as she may have already lost the enzyme that can process it. I made that mistake with my rescued 5-week-old and she got the diarrhea all over the place. Get some canned kitten food as soon as you can and be patient while she figures out that it's food (won't take long).
The not pooping is okay, especially if she peed. She is probably a little starved and hungry...normal pooping will resume once she's eating and no longer stressed out.
Hold her frequently, pet her while she eats. Vet visit as soon as you and she can do it.

Eat it.

A bloated/hard stomach is a sign for worm infestation.

You might need to do that thing where you rub its asshole gently with a wet towel to get it to shit. (Or you could go all out and lick it like its mother would.)

(Also, "American Shorthair" means purebred cat with a pedigree and all that looks like a random cat with short hair you found on the street and "Domestic Shorthair" means random cat with short hair you found on the street.)
