Hey /an/, I'm gonna get a Quaker Parrot and I wanna know what your opinion is on them, or if i should get a better parrot.

As long as you're willing to spend a good portion of your life tending to the care of what ultimately is like having a messy noisy two year old, then go for whatever parrot you want.

They're illegal here in California so I don't have much experience with that breed specifically.

Well, I've already read up on them and know all of that already, I just wanna know what /an/ thinks of them.

I had one in my childhood. I loved him-- he was really smart, learned to talk easily, and was very cuddly. He went with me on my shoulder everywhere and burrowed in to my shirt whenever I was sitting. The only drawbacks were how messy he was and his screaming for attention, but you get that with any bird.

I have one now. He's going on six years old. If you're going to get one, get a baby...and hand feed it. It's a cumbersome job to take on, but it'll be worth it in the end. Early trust and relationship build. But yes, they can get a tad messy and grouchy from time to time, and are celebrated poopers. No doubt great talkers and affectionate. I have an African Grey, as well. Hope it helps.

Thank you. :)

I've been in touch with a breeder of parrots and am going to get one from him. I've checked out the parrots and they were in good condition, and the quakers are only 6 weeks old, and he said that they are already hand fed, if that helps.
Going to get it on the weekend, and will post pics! :)
