Training Ahoy Anonymous
Hello fellow /an/imal lovers,

Recently I've decided to take in an abused/neglected dog and undertake the task of training him. I have had experience training dogs in the past, but it was minimal and pretty basic. I've only spent two hours with him so far and we have 'sit' down pat. Any tips for teaching him not to nip? What I'm worried about most is his love of chasing cars as well. I have the health aspect taken care of - he's due to be neutered next Tuesday and his next round of shots are in October.

The main problem is his lack of socialization and training.. So any helpful suggestions would be appreciated. He's not quite a year old, (Born July 23), and I'm also wondering if it's not too late to house train him.

Nooooooo how are you going to "love" him then :(
Think of all the fun you could have! Sheps are really well equipped, too!

first off, what kind of a dog is he, and how old?

for nipping, if it's playful nipping, ignore him. Seriously, don't look at him, talk to him, touch him or anything. If every single time he nips, you get up and walk away, he'll learn pretty damn fast that if he nips to play he makes you go away instead (trust me, this works better than smacking them/squirting them with water/saying no, it just takes patience).

He's a purebred German Shepherd, I really wasn't with it yesterday lol. Posted the pic, but forgot to mention he's a Shep. He was born July 23 of last year, so that puts him at about 10 months old.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to keep that in mind : )

Just in case; pic related.. Not him, but a random googled German Shepherd.

It will be harder to housetrain him at this age, but so long as you have a crate he should be fine. GSDs are usually super at that.

So there is light at the end of the tunnel XD I'm pretty sure I do have a crate laying around here, if not, that's something I'll have to look into. I've had one other purebred and currently do have a mixed Shep, and they've been great as far as training goes..

So here's hoping the little guy'll do alright!
