This is my dog, Borus. Well, her names Ginger, but Borus is just synonymous with being fat in my opinion. It just sounds like "fat"

Anyway. On a related note, She's 9 right now, and since we moved about 3 years ago my grandmother has been living with us. She had 3 other dogs, all chihuahua's, one really skinny, one angry, one REALLY fat. They all died within a years time after 2 years of us living here.

Since where my grandmother lives is more of a inlaw appartment, it was easy to keep ginger away from the other side so as not to cause trouble (I dont know why, she's a really calm dog. REALLY calm). My grandmother, saddened by this, started letting our dog over to her side, and started feeding her bowls of chicken every noon, ontop of her dog food, and the tons of table scraps she gets.

Well, everything was fine until suddenly I realized she could no longer hop onto my bed as easily, hopping off and slamming into it as she hopped up. Months later, it got worse, and she's HUGE. She grunts when she walks, only comes up the steps when she smells food. She barrels down the steps everytime she wants to go back down stairs, and I'm afraid she's gonna slam into the wall when she runs down the steps to quickly.

Because of the type of dog she is, she's really long, and being fat isnt a good thing. We might have to take her in for surgery, which we cant afford. So we might have to either put her to sleep, or just let her wallow in her own fat until she passes. My question(s) are: What can I do to prevent her early death, what's the average life span for a daschund, and last but not least, is that nose not godly?

Picture related.

Um, take her on walks? And make the grandmother feel bad about feeding it. Say something like "Just because she's fat doesn't mean she's happy. It means she'll die way sooner, and have all kinds of back problems. If you want to be nice, just play and pet her or walk her." Like make her feel really guilty, too. Ask her if she wants Borus to die like her dogs.
And put her on diet food. No need to put her down just because she's fat.

We have, multiple times. Told her to stop that is. Her food dish is downstairs with my grandmother, since she's down there the most. I guess walking her couldnt hurt, but I dont even know if any of her old collars would fit her now.

You need to move the food dish away from your nan and you need to walk your dog. Seriously, if she won't stop feeding the dog crap you need to do something about that now. Walking your dog or playing outside with her is a great way to help her with the weight, but you need to cut off the source of the problem to prevent further weight gain.

Hmmm, maybe you could chang where the food is.
But walking a dog isn't that hard. Collars are cheap. Is it a mini-daschund, or a regular one? Either way its legs are really short, so even a walk around the block every day will make a difference. And it'll be happier. My dog is retarded and if I walk her every day she perks up and plays more, but if I don't for a while she'll start just sleeping under a desk.
But here's a good website: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/obese.html

a collar isnt expensive, so you should be able to get a new one if the old ones doesnt fit.

get dietfood for the doggie.

kick your grandma out of the house.

Your dog barrels down the stairs? FILM IT.

And then take the dog to walks and tell your grandma the truth - that she is killing the goddamn dog.
