How do I capture stray cats and bring them inside so I can take care of them?

I got a group of feral cats that live outside my house. Out of the 12-15 cats that I've fed regularly, only 2 of them will allow me to pet them when they aren't eating, and only one more will let me when it's eating. Generally they aren't trusting, and it's almost useless to try anything with a cat that's already full grown.

The female ones like me better, i've noticed. The younger ones will imitate their parents, so if you make a mother like you it's kittens will be more inclined to get closer to you. First try petting them while setting out food. Set out enough food so that all the cats will come out. Choose which one you like. Get as close as you can. Each day get a bit closer. Eventually try to pet it, while remaining as far away as possible. Get closer each day. They'll all get used to you eventually, though they'll still sprint if you make sudden movements.

It's taken me almost 8 months to be good friends with one cat and only one of her two surviving kittens. I'm starting to be friends with a little orange kitten right now, but it still won't let me near it if there isn't food in front of it.

When they like you enough to rub against you when there isn't food around, simply open the door, lure it near you, pick it up and put it inside.

To be honest I wouldn't bother with a feral cat since they usually can't be tamed. Just go to a shelter and adopt a nice cat.

the longer u expose yourself to them the more comfy they'll become w/ you. after you feed them just sit out there and watch them, then work towards trying to pet them, over a few weeks. sticking your hand out, palm out and clicking gently w/ your tongue also helps, IMO.

I heard from /an/ that cats don't exist outside.
