hi all, for some time ago I saved a snake that was cought in the water above a powerstation.
it was a Natrix natrix, fairly common grass snake. it had one eye, the other eye was damaged.
seems like it was an old damage. I let it out a day afterwards at a swamp far away from powerstations.
I should mention that it was not afraid of me. I could pick it up and there was no panic.
they usually panic and when they can't retreet they throw up and then play dead.
but this one did nothing as such almost like it was tame.

my question is, was it really wise to let it out? it had one eye and it was let out in a totaly new area.

the deed is done so this doesn't matter that much. I just want to hear what you guys would have done in the same senario.

Snakes usually have poor eyesight. Chances are it'll be fine with only one eye.

Grass snakes nearly always have damaged eyes. It'll be fine.

A swamp is the best place for a Grass snake, lot's of yummy Frogs and Toads.
