Depends on the pound, but usually very cheap. BUT, keep in mind the cost of feeding, vet, supplies, etc.

Open the newspaper and look in the classifieds and I promise that you'll find an ad for free kittens or free puppies somewhere.

Unless something goes horribly wrong, it shouldn't be anywhere near $1,000. Don't be like those people who spoil their pets with all types of useless shit that the pet never touches.

I really, really strongly suggest having at least $1,000 on hand for emergencies, though. My free kitten cost me over $1,000 the first few months in vet bills when I got her-- and she was supposedly healthy and vet checked. My situation is an unusual one, but still, it's never a matter of "if" your pet gets sick or injured, it's "when." No one's going to have sympathy when your pet needs to go to the vet but you can't afford it.

This man has it right. Seriously, adopt the pet. You'll get it for almost nothing and keep an animal from being put to sleep. ;_;

I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel straight from a breeder with a AKC Champion of Breed or whatever award that is mother. She was $400. Unless you're buying Clifford himself no dog should cost you $1000

This is exactly why you should take a free or at least really cheap pet. Unless you're really wealthy, it's better to save the money for those unavoidable visits to the vet. The worst thing would be to take an expensive pet you then can't affort to take good care of.

I only had to pay a $50 fee or something for my cat from a shelter. Besides vet stuff, you have to buy litter, flea meds, food, and extras. I would say about $30-40 a month on just food, flea meds, and litter.

check the "pets" section on your local Craigslist

On;y treason a pet would cost upwards of 1000.00 if it was something really rare, like some F1 cat mixes can be (Bengals, Savannah Cats, Bagrals, etc)
