I need some help Identifying this spider that I found in my backyard. This is the first time I've seen this type of spider around here and I don't want to take any chances on it being poisonous and biting one of my dogs.

My mom calls those Orb weavers. I have no idea if that's the real name or not but it makes very pretty webs

I'm not really sure about the scale, it's about half the size of my thumb and very thick. It's coloring is black with white highlights, it also seems to have barbs on it's legs and a row of spikes running down it's backside.

I live in Michigan. The web was very springy and was made in a circular pattern.

It's an orb weaver yeah. Not sure what kind exactly.

In my experience, Orb-weavers generally aren't deadly or even mildly toxic. I've been bitten by the occasional Aussie orb weavers whilst working in the garden and haven't had any bad side-effects.

Could be a Lichen orb weaver or something, but not sure on that one.

What you've got there is an orb weaver, not only harmless but DELICIOUS.
