I read about a genetics lab in the US that was selling guaranteed hypo-allergenic cats for about $10k.

Probably the ones without hair.

Siberian cats have been claimed to be hypoallergenic, but that depends on the individual (both cat and owner, that is). You need to spend some time with mommycat and daddycat to see if you have a reaction before you can safely take their kitten.

Nope. It's dander that causes allergy, not hair.

Yes, the company claims this but is is 99% certain to be a hoax or a scam. The owner of said company is wanted in several states for business fraud. The official registered headquarters of the company is his mother's house. Furthermore, they have yet to actually produce an allergy-free cat.

Which company? Allerca or Felix Pets? They are both making the same claim, the former through selective breeding and the latter through genetic alteration.

Actually, it's the mites in the dander that causes allergies.

Shih Tzus and Schnauzers. My cousin has asthma and is very sensitive, but is fine around both of these. If you want a dog, get a Schnauzer. If you want a cat, get a Shih Tzu. They're the closest thing to cats without actually being a cat.

burmese cats are allergy friendly. they're purebred though, so they tend to be fairly expensive.

Not if we're talking about cats. Cat allergy is caused by a protein in cat saliva, that ends up in the dander.

Just get a cat.
I was once very allergic to cats. My family didn't care and got two cats. I am no longer allergic to cats.
You just need to be exposed to it, and you'll become immune to it.

I wouldn't suggest that. It may work in cases of mild allergy, and if the cat isn't highly allergenic, but it's better not to take chances. It's best to try interacting with some mildly allergenic cat breeds first, so that you know what sort of symptoms you get.

Allerca is the "suspicious" one. I don't know anything about Felix Pets.

What really sucks about being allergic to cats, is when you rescue a kitten and it wants to lick your face every time you go near it. I really like cats, but I'm so allergic I get sick every time I'm near one.

Retards. You can't live with them, and you can't live without running into them.
