if that's real, that is the most awesome thing i've ever seen.

Looks fake, mostly because the bird only has one leg.
>> Anonymous
praying mantis have been observed feasting on humming birds

Its real, its a Golden Orb Weaver. They usually feed on large insects.

They also make enormously strong webbing.

Impressive.

Is the spider able to eat it? I mean, a feathery skin bag filled with meat and bones is quite different thing than a typical insect. It wouldn't be a surprise if the normal "dissolve its internals, suck it dry" method wouldn't work.

Imagine the terror that bird felt. It's basically like a spider the size of a dog trapping to in your kitchen.

You know looking at those four pictures seems to prove that should humanity contact aliens there will be nothing but fear and loathing between each group.
I look at that poor bird's eye which is dilated with horror and feel such a kinship that I'd smash that goddamned arachnid to death, save the bird and nurse him back to health.
Usually I'm cool towards spiders, one time nearly went apeshit when a janitor killed a wolf spider, but any nice feelings towards these horrors have completely gone out the window.
Fuck 'em.

This is why I fucking LOVE orb weavers.

I do feel sorry for the bird though, although it's probably no worse than it getting eaten by a giant centipede or goliath tarantula.

Bumping photos 'cause they're just so cool.

I am actually surprised that the spiderweb is strong enough to catch a bird of that size.

The bird probably flew into the web of the Orb spider and got stuck. The spider probably didn't get near it until it died.
