Its a ficus tree, they can spend their whole like indoors. Do best with indirect light mixed in with some direct every so often. Unlike most true bonsai trees they don't need to be outside most of the time. (Thats right /an/ your last japanese maple/juniper/whatever died because it was kept indoors.)
Right now it doesnt look very bonsaish to me becuase it is very over grown (imho). You first need to decide what style you want to emulate: Upright, Formal Upright, Root over rock, windswept etc... Looks like upright is the way to go with that plant though windswpet may be alright to if you can bend it way to one side. The good thing about ficus is that they are very flexible almost forever.
Anyway, very hardy, most true bonsai rules/maintainence dont need to be followed. But they will grow to the size of a man if kept indoors in about 8 years.
