Question about heating for corn snakes Anonymous
First time corn snake owner here.

I recently purchased a 12 inch amelanistic corn snake from my local pet store. I have him in a 10 gallon R-Zilla reptile terrarium. I have a question about heating.

I bought an ExoTerra light fixture, and currently use a 100 Watt red incandescent light bulb to provide heat. However, I think the bulb is too hot, and I've read reviews online saying that they die out after approximately one month's use. The red light it emitts is also annoying. To remedy this, I'm thinking about purchasing either a 60-Watt or 100-Watt ZooMed Ceramic Heat Emitter. My question is, will my Exo Terra Medium Size Light rated up to 200-Watts to be an appropriate fixture? ZooMed sells a special wire fixture specifically for the ceramic heat emitter. However, I'm not sure if it's entirely necessary--they might just want my money.

Anyone have any advice? Related links:

That's good to know. Corn snakes are temperate, so that would make sense. My house is always 70-74ish degrees. If I turn the light on, the snake will often bask under it for a few minutes, then go to the opposite end of the tank where the hide hole is.

I was told that I should keep mine at about 80?F. I've got a 75watt sun glow spot, I think. A thermometer is a good idea.
