New Kitten Anonymous
OK /an/, heres my problem. I just got a new kitten named Kinkade. I have another cat named Nexis. Since I've brought Kinkade home, Nexis has been horrible. I even had to put him in the loo last night because he was trying to beat the hell out of Kinkade.
So heres my question, How can I go about getting my cats to get along?
Picture has nothing to do with this tho...

When you introduce new pets it should be on neutral ground--as in a new area where neither pet has been before. (or at the very least, hasn't been very often)

If that's not possible then you can clean the heck out of your house/apartment before you introduce the new pet.

The reason behind this is that your existing cat considers your house to be his territory. Now you've brought in a new cat, who is now invading Nexis's space....big suprise there is trouble! Anyway, if you do this in a foreign enviornment instead then the introduction takes place on "neutral ground" and neither cat is pissed at the other invading his space. Cleaning your room super-well has a similar effect. (your goal is to remove the smell of the existing cat, thereby un-marking it as his territory)

Cant really do THAT now...its to late. Any other Suggestions. Thanks tho, I will REALLY remember that for when and if I get another cat

Cleaning the bejeesus out of your place right now may help somewhat.

Removing the smell of your existing cat will make the place less of "his territory". Of course, it would have been best to do this before you brought home your new kitten, but it certainly won't hurt to do it now.

I'll start the steam cleaner as soon as I get home today. Thanks for the help. I really hopes this helps.

put the new cat in the bathroom. keep it there. don't let it out. they will get to know eachother through the door. after say.. a week, start introducing the new cat to your original.

Also, by putting your first cat in time-out you're sending it very mixed signals that he/she has been replaced as opposed to has a new playmate.

I hear that if you put a little perfume on both of them they fight less because they smell the same. The only thing that has worked for me is supervision and time and perhaps a squirt bottle and a broom in case they really get into it. DO NOT try to seperate them with your hands if they are really going at it. One may bite and rend you. Human skin is rather fragile without the fur.
