Fur coats Anonymous
I am not agains't the merchandise of fur coats, but I just wonder why they don't kill the animal first and then take it's skin off?

Killing the animal first could ruin the fur or something? Or are they just lazy?
>> Anonymous
Fur is tacky.

And to answer your question, I'm not too sure myself but this is the best I can come up with: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fur_coat
>> Anonymous
what do you mean, they don't kill it first?
>> Anonymous
>>188415
They skin em alive.

I think it has something to do with the skin not coming off as easily from a cold corpse. Kind of like feathers from a chicken. when you have 3rd world countries skinning the animals, its extra man hours and extra time to kill then skin the animals when you could just skin then, then let them bleed to death. And that my friend, is why they dont kill the animal first.
>> Anonymous
Usualy (~95%) they kill animals first, and then take skin off. However, instances when animals are skinned alive are insanely popular among treehugers.

Proof animals are skinned alive most of the time?

Either way, what are the statistics? There probably aren't any official ones, considering some of the fur trade is illegal.

Ya know, as the owner of two fur-bearing animals, I can tell ya it'd be far, far less time consuming to kill em first, or at least drug em. I can attest that chinchillas at least will squirm out of grip and drop clumps of fur when they really want to get away. Not that I'd skin them.

It's like when vegans try to tell us that all cows are tortured before they're put down, and it's always with a sledge hammer, when most slaughterhouses nowadays use a painless gun, and slit the throats AFTER they kill them.
>> Anonymous
>>188441
But i saw a documentary how they took this very cute sheep, slit its throat and then skinned it why it was stil moving, so eating meat is very evil and you should be ashamed of yourself if you eat meat.

Ehh

I work for a fur manufacturer and I can tell you we do drug them up first with muscle tranqs but i guess the pain is so bad they still squirm most of the time, but do you think you could pull the skin off an animal that wasn't a little dopey? Hell no!

Most of the guys who work at the pens are pretty sadistic fucks anyway. I wouldn't work there if I had stayed in school but I dropped out in sofomore year of higschool and nobody else will hire me except mcdonalds which pays less.

Oh they DO. With a club to smash the head in, much like sealing. (shooting or stabbing is not recommended since it will puncture and devalue the pelt).

Then those stupid animal rights activists went around with footages of blood-spattered skulls... and the fur industry now resorts to doping and slitting.

Ironic, if you must ask me.
>> Anonymous
slitting the throat is actually the cleanest, healthiest, and most merciful way to slaughter an animal. Granted a gun shot to the head is just about as painless if not less, a slit jugular vein causes the animal to die instantly while allowing its blood to drain out of its body. Shooting, decapitation, and shocking methods cause the muscles to tense up and capture the blood in the meat while chemicals are just plain unsuitable for food but possibly exceptional for fur.

But that doesn't matter since it's fucking retarded to be relying on fur unless you're a fucking Eskimo. I honestly ask anyone wearing fur if it's faux or not. It's been a long time since anyone said it's real in front of me, but the last one got a punch in the face. I promise anyone else the same as a merciful form of punishment for your shameless arrogance. There's no sound reason to go after an animal solely for its fur.

We're all sentient self aware organisms with a sense of morality. Get a fucking clue and make a decision for a more reasonable and considerate lifestyle.

There was some documentary on HBO I saw about 2 weeks ago, it was about the batshit crazy leader of PETA. While she was black-hobo nuts, she did show some of the shit going on at slaughter houses, fur factorys and such.

The fur factory part showed a guy attempting to break the neck of a coyote and step on his head. Then later it showed them skinning a coyote alive and throwing what was left of him into a back of a truck. God awful shit.

I remember watching a documentary about the batshit crazy leader of PETA. While she was black-hobo nuts, she did show some of the awful shit they do in places like fur factories.

Basically the video show some guy attempting to break the neck and head of a dog like animal (most likely a coyote). Then later it shows them skinning one of them while they were alive. Then throwing the twitching corpse into the back of a truck with the rest of them. God awful shit.

So would you guys consider wearing your great-grandmother's fur coat immoral?

needs more furries

You expect someone who thinks that poor people should just be shot to care about some "poor, defenseless animals"?

Of course, I don't eat red meat when I can because it's not economically viable to raise such a large animal and only use 15% of it for meat.

Because ALL FUR COMES FROM POOR COUNTRIES AND NOT ESTABLISHED INDUSTRIES THAT ADHERE TO STANDARDS!

PETA is even more skewed than Fox News.

How they kill those animals is the least of the problems. They are just animals and dead in a few minutes. How they keep them untill it is the day of their demise, is.
What is more important is why we should not hang dead animals over our bodies. We aren't cavemen.
>> Anonymous
Or are we?

umm that is a Dog... you ever see some one here in N.A. wearing a dog skin coat? or eating a dog steak? No me ether.

I'm am not a fan of trophy hunting or trapping but those animals are dead before there skinned. in Malaysia or where ever the picture is from they do it differently.. Don't blame locals for foreign societies attitudes about the value of life.

WTF IS THAT SHIT

thats beyond fucked up atleast kill the damn things before you do it don't "knock them out a little by bashing there heads against the ground" FFS that makes me sick that they did that
>> ... Anonymous
now let's watch Hannibal so we can see people get skinned, particularly plump women.

>>188644Of course, I don't eat red meat when I can because it's not economically viable to raise such a large animal and only use 15% of it for meat.

FYI after the "best" cuts are taken off a carcass for human consumption the rest is used for ground meat, potted meat, bone, blood and byproduct meals, fat for cosmetic ingredients, etc.

There was a report on Dateline or whatever news show in 2000, it's illegal to import it but places like Burlington were selling it as "asian wild dog" and such. So graphic they had to cut out the video of them skinning a german shepherd alive, but you could still hear it squalling.

meh fur is pretty pointless and stupid, in addition to the various morality issues. Synthetic materials are warmer, easier to clean, and cheaper.
>> Anonymous
It's the same as with anything.

If you enjoy the product or service, but feel that it maybe questionable, don't ask questions. Within reason of course. If someone hands you a bag full of twenty dollar bills, and then walks off, you might want to think about where they came from. However, What goes on halfway around the world doesn't really concern you, does it?

The ammount of resources that go into a single fur coat is absurd. It makes no sense to raise hundreds on small animals to turn into a single item of clothing.
>> gizmogal !MmLOyiCYJs
honestly, unless you need it for some culurally or geographically motivated reason, taking fur is pretty silly.
making one for yourself without a factory is ok, but it's just kind weird to sell other creatures' skins, no?

Fur is disgusting and I don't have respect for anyone that buys it. Fuckin barbarians.

I call bullshit on most fur being taken from animals that were skinned alive. My dad trapped beavers and such, and it's just retarded to try to skin something unless it's dead. Anybody that doesn't like fur hasn't worn a hat made out of an entire nutria rat. Best fucking hat ever.
>> Anonymous
I've skinned a couple of dead animals - small animals - when they were still reasonably warm, so I doubt that's the main reason not to kill the animals before skinning in developed countries. In third world countries... hell, I'll believe pretty much anything. Just look how they treat their children and ask yourself why they would have any empathy to spare for other species.

As for fur... it has its uses in an arctic or cool climate but owning fur clothing in a subtropical region is just retardedly idiotic.

>>188961
All alive purposely? Doubtful. However, most likely what happens in any high production/need item like fur, is someone is willing to make a buck with minimal morals and little cost. Instead of humanly killing an animal (such as cows with knockers) they resort to slamming a animal unconssious, attempting to break its neck, or stepping on its head. Problem is sometimes slamming them into the ground just stuns them or they don't fully kill them and they are skinned alive.

fur smells.
synthetic stuff is easier to clean. and softer.

Fuck fur.
I bought a foxtail off of eGay and it reeked.
