So my dog of 12 years will be euthanized & cremated tomorrow... Anonymous
Strange that he was my closest friend even though he was an animal & couldnt speak. He was an asshole sometimes & I yelled at him because of that but I still loved him & got over it after a couple of minutes.

12 long years, hard to believe a week from tomorrow would be the day we first adopted him from North Shore Animal League in New York (28th is my birthday) so yeah, an even more sadder birthday for me since he was my only "social attachement", I rarely talked with people outside my family.

Bloat combined with heavy bleeding in the small intestine. I would pay for his medical bills but seeing as how he is this old & the doctor said he wouldn't get that much better soon after, it would be best to euthanize him.

He was my dog & I hope he understands that I love him enough for me to make this choice, I don't want to see him laying on the floor just struggling to breath, it pains me to see him like that. He can't speak but I see his suffering when I see his cloudy eyes. I know he be at peace, free from his unfortunate condition.

Pic slightly related. Papers said he was born on Feb 6th & Husky/Chow mix when we got him from the North Shore Animal League in New York. Rusty red color where the usual black/brown would be + smaller body frame. Sadly only pics I have are 3x5 printers & I lack a scanner.

I remember going through that with my German Shepherd. It's never easy; I know how you feel.

That's very sad. I do believe though, there's more to animals than we may think, and that your dog understands how much you love him, and is very grateful for the great life he had with you.
Hang tigh, Anon, my heart goes to you.

I had gotten my dog from the north shore animal league as well. We had to have him put to sleep last summer as his kidneys were failing and his health was quickly getting worse and worse. I still miss him a great deal, had had him for 12 years also. The only thing I can really tell you in a time life this is that his memory will in fact live on with you, I still think about my dog all the time.

So sorry for your loss. Be glad you at least get to say goodbye and be at peace with him. Last summer my boyfriend and I were out at a freinds house during a storm and we got a call at 3:30 am that his dog had died from a heart attack. She was only about 10 years old, German Shepherd. To this day he still gets upset that he didn't have the chance to say goodbye to her. :(

My condolences. :( It's always hard to lose a pet, even if you are going down the euthanasia route.

The only thing I can say is, if you can, be with him at the end. For me at least, it was comforting to be there for my old dogs, and comfort them as they slipped away.

Good luck, and condolences again. :(

saying goodbye is hard, especially when you've had him so long, but at least you are doing the noble thing and making the choice to end his pain. im sorry for the loss, but its good to know that someone is out there w/ a heart big enough to know when its time to say goodbye

pic is my dog i said goodbye to at 16 years old, she was my best friend to
