What amuses me is that Appalachiosaurus is probably responsible for Albertosaurus becoming my favorite dinosaur. Back before it was named and was placed under the albertosaur heading as an essentially unclassified species, the local natural history museum here in Atlanta had a giant sculpture of it as Albertosaurus in its "walk through time in Georgia" exhibit, and I was like "oh awesome, a tyrannosaur lived in the same area I did!" (this was back when I was like...ten). So I did some reading up on Albertosaurus over the years and came to like the idea of a social, swift tyrannosaur.
Then come to find out the animal that sparked the whole thing was a completely different genus that's still largely a mystery. Oh well.
