I need help /an/.

Yesterday I was finned under my thumbnail. The very tip of one of the spines broke off under the quick, and I cannot get it out.

I believe the fish was a smallmouth bass.

What I am asking is, are the spines of this fish's back fin barbed like a porcupine? Will it come out on its own or burrow deeper?

Pic only slightly related.

be a man and cut your finger off i suppose, could be bad if it stays in

it depends. i know some fish have barbed spines but not all. usually nonpoisonous fish don't have barbs... but then again... certain catfish prove that wrong...

i'd suggest you do what my doctor told me to do for bee stings... put toothpaste on it. something in the toothpaste draws the sting out... it would probably work for fish spines... maybe splinters too.
