I need paper.

Have they explicitly said that they're clear-cutting, as opposed to practicing a responsible, cyclical pattern that preserves forest?

I thought the show was rather interesting. More interesting than the show about the ice road truckers, anyway. I probably won't watch it regularly but if there's nothing on when it's on, I'll watch it.

Since the OP probably didn't watch the first episode, it explains that most if not all of the trees that were being cut in that episode were from trees planted 60 years ago specifically for the lumber industry. And while I hate the fact forests are dwindling worldwide at an alarming rate too, I have to admit that I kind of need toilet paper, and even if we could recycle 90% of the paper we needed, we'd still need guys like them cutting the other 10%.

If you are truly passionate about protecting forests, the best thing to do is to petition the leaders in your area (county, state, country, whatever) to support replanting efforts and to enact or strengthen conservation and recycling laws. And obviously, get together with any groups you can to do as much replanting as possible.

I don't believe the show glorifies the destruction of forests any more than the Deadliest Catch glorifies over-hunting of marine life. There are laws in both sectors that the companies and men have to follow that protect both resources. Your passion should be directed at these laws, not at the people who are trying to make a living within them. Axmen isn't about executives sitting around in a high-rise drinking $50-a-bottle water and writing with $100 pens talking about the fiscal year and what they think about the natural world. Axmen is a TRUE reality show about a dangerous and tough job. That should be what draws you to it (or what slips your interest).

SPOILER: ACTUALLY IT'S ENLIGHTENING PEOPLE WHO THINK WE ARE DESTROYING FORESTS AND LEAVING BARREN WASTELANDS.

THEY CUT ONE PART, REPLANT IT, THEN MOST TO ANOTHER AREA. TREES ARE A RENEWABLE FUCKING RESOURCE.
