In less than an hour, a vet is making a house call to put down my dog of 11 years. She has a lump on her throat the size of a baseball, has all but stopped eating, and can't walk more than 10 yards without becoming winded.

What are /an/'s experiences with putting down loved pets? Any stories, advice, or things to laugh about in this dark time are appreciated.

Pic is doggie sans tumor.

you're a quitter, an old dog of mine had a tumour removed bigger than that and lived for quite a few years after that

I feel your pain, man.

The thing had grown around her windpipe and jugular; no way of removing the tumor without taking something vital along with it.

I'm sorry <3
My grammas dog, Penny, was found dead one day under the bed after she had been poisoned. She was an incredibly smart dog for being an ugly little mutt, and I loved her dearly. I was only a kid when I was called and told she died.
It's never easy to loose your best friend, and I know that there will be a hole in my heart forever when my cat passes away.
Just remember the good times and how you gave that dog a wonderful life and plenty of happiness.

I was upset for awhile after the dog I grew up with had to be put down because of seizures. The medicine just wasn't working anymore and she was in a lot of pain. I just held her for a really long time that morning.
