Interesting, both my geckos shedded their skin on the same day. Usually they alternate weeks when they shed. Now my albino's going to keep me up all night while she sheds.

What kind of substrate do you use?
I'm getting equipment ready for my new Leopard Gecko.
I heard so much about how sand can 'kill' geckos. (Impaction)
Thas gay. I was still going to get a type of sand anywho.

Calcium sand. It's a little expensive and if you spill water it becomes somewhat mushy and clumps, but it cleans easy and if they consume it's digested. It also helps prevent calcium deficiency to because if they're lacking they'll instinctively pick at it. I also add a little sterile peat and moss in the hide hole and spray it ocasionally to provide a humid spot which helps prevent troubles shedding the extremities. A lot of leopards kept on pure sand substrates will lose their claws and digit tips as they get old due to poor humidity.

Just to clarify, use the finest grade sand you can (calci-sand or otherwise) because if consumed they'll pass easier than larger particles, and even calci-sand doesn't digest very fast so if consumed in quantities it can cause impaction too.

If your 'new' leopard is going to be a hatchling I recommend you either wait on the sand and use paper towels until it's large enough to eat at least medium crickets, or feed it in a separate container, just to be safe.

Reptile carpet is the best solution. Most sand can hurt your pet. I had very fine sand that was supposed to be easy to digest, but I saw my gecko leap at crickets and get a mouth ful of it, and he looked absolutely pained, like he might be choking. I switched right away and haven't regretted it since.

One of the problems with carpet, especially with hatchling terrestrial lizards, is the same with hatchling birds. They can get tiny threads too small to notice wrapped around their digits and they lose circulation and fall off so if you go that route, be careful. Also try to weigh the edges down if you're using an undertank heating pad.

Why does it keep you up at night?
