Are you asking about the avic avic? Or just Ts in general? Arboreal and terrestrial Ts handle food disposal differently.

Usually tarantulas roll up their food remains into a ball and set it aside. You can easily collect it with some tweezers.

WHY WOULD YOU KEEP SOMETHING LIKE THIS?
>> Anonymous
>>268050
>>268055

It doesnt matter if you fuck up the web, they repair it right away anyways. Some species will put the remains as far away from their burrow/web etc as possible.

Also I live in Canada, so no species of arachnid is illegal. I do have some Giant red millipedes(scientific name unkown), and some chinese praying mantis's though, both being illegal. Canada is pretty easy going though, you only get in trouble if you announce it to the public or attempt to sell them. Even then the most that happens is it being confiscated(this is with inverts mind you). I am in Alberta so having something like a Burmese python without a permit is getting it confiscated and usually around a $5000 fine.

I am fucking terrified of centipedes, but I use to be the same way about all arachnids, until I owned one. Thats why I just bought me a Scolopendra subspinipes 'de haani' baby...they are mean, fast and get to about 9".

I've got a Steppe lemming, and I've only seen them sold once, whereas I've seen some of these consistently sold by various places.

Not that they're not cool. Especially like the centipede so far.

I always use either a small pair of tongs and a micro hook when handling the small venomous. In the years i've kept hots I've never gotten the urge to try to hold one in my actual hands, with the exception of occasionally tailing and hooking a copperhead, rattlesnake, etc. The eyelash vipers have a slightly higher LD50 than say a copperhead, and deliver on average only 10-20mg of venom. so if i got tagged, i'm sure it would hurt but probably no lasting damage.

here's one of my frogs.

OP again

Luckily I am in Canada, so the breeder I deal with has the P.metallica slings for $200, They usually go for $300+

If you want a fucking cool Arachnid project, go buy some Holothele incei (3+ of them), and throw them in a 10 gallon. They web everywhere, and reproduce nicely, the breeders I know have about 60 in one tank, they are on about their 8th generation and no side effects from inbreeding.

Pic is a nice female, females are a nice goldish brown, males are more a gray.

OP once more

Or I even suggest a Heteroscodra maculata, act the same as pokies, venom the same. Slow at growning, and better hope you get a female, then it will end up growing into one of these beauties(males just get a dull brown and really furry looking, still cool though).

I don't have any pictures of them but I've had three pet tarantulas. One was a beautiful Mexican red knee and the other two were Chilean rose hairs. I dunno if you consider a bearded dragon, red eared slider, or budgie to be exotic pets, but I also have those.

That's my picture of the Colombian Tegu I kept. Gave him up for an Argentine that I now parade around the board on occasion.

Funny that some of my pictures wound up on google.

Proof.

Colombians are assholes. They're nearly impossible to tame. The Argentine I have now was docile straight out of the egg.

I have 24 or 25 tarantulas, scorpions, some snakes, a cuban anole, and a few banded geckos too. They're not as interesting as tegus.

Man, those tarantulas are pretty fucking awesome.

Are they fun pets? Do they like to climb around at all or do they just sit around until feeding time?
>> Anonymous
>>270344

That's a tricky question. If you have a terrestrial it's unsafe to take them too high off the ground, so if you really want to take it out you have to be super careful. An arboreal would fair better higher up, but you still have to be careful. Taking them out and stuff always stresses them out, so it's really a question of whether or not you are ok with stressing your pet.

That said, all of mine have been fun to watch roam around their cages and catch their food. My B. vagans would climb around the walls of his cage and "lick" up water if I misted his cage.

Sadly he died, being male and all :/

Some people say certain breeds of Ts don't ever do anything fun/interesting but it really depends on the individual T. Sure some breeds are a bit more skittish than others, but overall they have their own personalities and quirks.

OP here

I have yet to find any of my tarantula's dull, they each have their own personalities. I have a B.smithi(Mexican red knee) that likes to think its arboreal, which is kinda bad, because when its bigger a fall of even a foot or so can kill it(causes internal bleeding, sometimes they lose a leg).

I would have to say the funnest one of mine to hold and watch is my A.versicolor, they are so incredibly active, everytime you pop the lid it comes for a visit. Then hops around on you.

One of the coolest things is watching them all make their webbings, for that reason whenever someone asks what a good starter tarantula is, I suggest a pink toe. They barely ever bite(if they do you obviously did something it didnt like) then can be handles, but you have to watch out for their ranged defence capabilities(shooting poop). They can be handled, and they get to a nice size and look pretty cool. One of the only tarantula's I have seen girls just fall in love with, simply because of its hot pink toes when its bigger.

OP here

Too bad piranha's are pretty hard to find in Canada now, I think some species were illegal here, but dont quote me on that. I would love to have a nice size group of them, if only to get a giant tub full of them and throw the neighbours kids in it and hold them under with a big stick.

>> Anonymous
>>271746

Nah. I've had two geckos with that scorpion for several months now. The geckos are probably immune to the venom, but the scorpions don't harm them as long as both get food and the scorpion isn't pregnant (in which case she clears everything out of the area by killing them).

In the wild, I find a Stripe-tailed scorpion and banded gecko together under a rock frequently. Seemed logical to me that they would do well together in captivity. SHIT WORKED. Now I need adult male scorpions and bigger geckos.
