Ferrets Anonymous
I have a ferret who's now about 8 months old. I want to take him outside on a leash and harness, but he really isn't interested in wearing the thing. :( Has anyone successfully done this?

On another note, post ferrets

>>291821i have 3 ferrets and only one likes going out on the harness. i started him off A bit younger. i say put him on it and give him lots of treats and play w/ him in it before you even try to take him outside on it! they can wiggle out of anything and my female got out of it once outside and i almost didnt get her back! the thing to keep in mind is, dont push them into doing things they dont want to do becouse as you most likly know having ferrets, if they dont want to do something, they WONT

dont take him out until he stops trying to get the harness off!!

I have two ferrets and I started them out when I first got them and just put the harness on them and let them run around the house with it on for a bit ever day then put them on a leash and walked em around the house and they don't want to walk with me to as much as just go check everything out but they do ok.

Even if the ferret was indifferent to your leash, they would have a hard time walking along side you as suitably as a dog or a cat would. Random stopping and turning make talking them for walks a little dangerous.

can we eat it?

I've done it. It's not nearly as hard as you think. Get the carpet shark used to it by letting him wear it when you let him out of the cage. Once the tub rat is used to it, you can start using the leash to take him outside for ten or fifteen minutes. Don't expect him to keep up with you, if anything remember he's a little nutter and will run around like one. Just have a lot enough leash you aren't running around too much with him or you become defacto toy.
