Those spide's... Anonymous
Okay,I recently saw some pics of these spiders and have a few questions...

1.What breed are they?

2.In what places do colony's like this usually sit?

3.Do they live in Europe?And if so,Holland?

4.Poisonous?

5.Does fire have any effect? They're Bug-types so I think they are XD
>> Anonymous
They're not spiders, they're members of order Opiliones also called harvestmen and daddy long legs. The order is widespread, though I don't know about this particular species. In any case, they don't have any venom.

I seen daddy long legs before.Never in packs though...

...

Fire? :D

daddylonglegs are of the order pholcidae. They are called cellar spiders in some parts of the world but they are not the same thing as harvestmen (OP pic)

I never said they were of the order Opiliones. I only said that members of that order are called daddy long legs (the converse of what you're arguing against). In fact daddy long legs is an ambiguous common name that can refer to either (unrelated) order, and the fault lies with you for misreading my post.

And also, the arachnids in the OP pic are clearly harvestmen and not pholcids, so your attempt at being pedantic is not even relevant.

hm, yes, i see...

i concur...

chill the fuck out dude, you're the one being pedantic

Some people also call Crane Flies "daddy long legs" so let's just call them Opiliones or harvestmen. It's kind of like asking if something is a "banana spider" which is a completely different animal depending on region. Also, OP, that picture is a shoop in case you couldn't tell from the pixels or if you haven't seen that many in your day. It was originally a cluster of them on a ceiling and somebody rotated it to look like a terror tunnel. No one was sure why they cluster together like that.

Didn't the story go that the photo was taken near a bridge arch or something and they were clustered there for warmth? Could be completely made up though

1. I know them only as Daddy Longlegs.

2. I once saw an entire piece of large playground equipment COVERED in them... Semi-wooded country area.

3. Their species coverage is over 90% of the world.

4. There's an urban legend that says they're their venom is the most poisonous in the world... but their fangs are far too small to bite into a human.

5. KILL IT WITH FIRE. Fire kills most things, so I'd say so. But these things are speedy... I'd watch out that it doesn't catch anything else on fire if it manages to skitter off somewhere while aflame.

One house I lived in, the shed was full of them hanging in webs at about face height

suffice it to say I nearly died of terror

Sounds like they were getting caught by whatever spiders you had in there.

I wasn't going to get close enough to find out myself, that's for sure

I was at a scout camp thing and we were sleeping in those military canvase tents, hanging out bags of dishes from branches. It rained overnight and when we went out the next day to make breakfast, my entire bad was buldging and there were Daddy Longlegs filling the entire bag. Luckily my dishes were all metal because we played some serious "Beat The Shit Outta That Bag" with our walking sticks...

Yeah, I'd say they are daddy long-legs. They are pretty much harmless and if anything, a great spider to have around (They just sit around lazily in the corner and never leave it [from my experiences atleast]) and as afar as poisonous.. Perhaps? But I doubt it,e ven if they were, they have to small of fangs to actually pierce human skin. I am not sure if they live in europe.. and yes.. Fire does 10x damage :P

oh my sweet fucking jesus... kill all those mother fuckers holy shit@!!!!!@!

ya those are daddy long legs all right.. KILL THEM

OK, they are NOT SPIDERS.

They have no silk glands, they have NO VENOM. The males have a penis. Lol, a penis.

Holy crap, do any of you spouting out this random information even know how to use the Internet?

I almost forgot, fire attacks are indeed super effective.

the correct term for a gathering of granddaddy longlegs is "jamboree."
>> Anonymous
>>136108
well that depends on which variety of 'daddylonglegs' you are talking about. harvestmen (opiliones) are arachnids but not spiders, cellar spiders are in fact proper spiders

I like to pull all their legs off and rest the body on top of them as they twitch frantically.

If you had read my post you will notice that not only did I not refer to them as "daddy longlegs" but I posted a picture of a harvestman named HARVESTMAN.JPG.

OP here, they don't have silk glands?Thought I saw one sitting in a web sometime.
>> Anonymous
>>135558

OP again, I actually ment, do they sit in like airshafts? If they only si ton wooden structures I won't be worrying.
>> Anonymous
>>136651
If you saw a harvestman in a web, it was about to be eaten by a spider. They aren't limited in what they cluster together on, but keep in mind the OP pic is a shoop.

Poor harvestmen :(

They are called daddylonglegs in sweden. They live in sweden. They are mostly in my basement(not these meny, but 2-3). They are poisonous, not much tho, and they dont have strong enough bite to peirce human skin, so the only way is if it bites you in a open wound, even then much wont happen, but you'll surely notice it. And yes, as anyone would understand, you can kill it with fire.
