Hey /an/ I need your help regarding my fat-ass cat.

She's 9 1/2 years old right now, 13 lbs. or so but of a rather small build and growing fatter by the day. I stopped free-feeding her and I'm trying to make her play with my shoelace, the only thing that will get her up and moving, but she's still really hefty.

WTF do I do? I don't want her ending up like the cat in this pic, and developing serious health problems. :|

I had a similar situation a few months back. We have a little Jack Russel that had gotten up to an obese 42 pounds. Pretty big for such a short dog. We were pretty much feeding her table scraps. All kinds of greasy foods.

She started vomiting non-stop over a course of several days, and a trip to the vet discovered a case of acute pancreatitis. She was lucky to survive, but she did pull through. After that, the vet had us put her on a very strict diet. The food we had to get for her was pretty expensive, about $40 for a 2-3 week supply. But it did the trick, and so far she's lost about 10-15 pounds.

I'm sure there are other cheaper diet foods out there if you don't want to spend that much.

Like>>213055said, you might want to try catnip. I had a very grumpy cat a few years ago- liked to sit in corners and would completely ignore you if you tried playing with him or something. But a little catnip would completely change his attitude.

She's a lot more fun when she's, you know, alive.

Hmm... alright, catnip toys and weight-loss food it is, then!

Your vet should help you get them on a diet plan, but one thing i know to do is feed them caned cat food and not kibble. it is better for them, thats what my vet told me, but i don't remember the reasons for it. just remember that cats are not human so don't give them human food. some chicken (lean) and the occasional bit of fish is good tho.

you feed her less often but just enough so that she stays alive. but dont hold back on water. she should lose weight slowly.
