Both butterflies.

I think people who kill bugs to add them to a collection are pretty big losers

Agreed. Taking a picture is superior to sticking a fucking needle through it.

Couple weeks ago I was spending a few hours at a local park with my friends, enjoying a few well-deserved after-work beers and I spotted a random caterpillar on my boot. No idea what it was, all I know is it was an inch long, thin and green. For some reason my friends thought it funny to see a brawny six-foor headbanger gently pick up a tiny caterpillar and transport it onto a bush where it won't get stepped on... Huh. I guess I'm kinda funny that way. :D

I'm a biology major, I do it for fun and for a grade. I don't kill every single bug I see, I probably appreciate and understand insects more than most people. so please stfu

Well, neat! I'd found a rosy maple moth a while back, and didn't know what it was. It was already mostly dead, so I froze it. I just love its little pink feets!

You stick needles through insects for "fun"? Consider professional help.

What!? Me too, but I've never seen those cute lil' fuckers before. Envyyyy.

I think collecting bugs for study was reasonable when there were no digital cameras this good around. Now you can get such good pictures that it doesn't seem necessary. I think the best way to respect these creatures is to let them live.

I still can't believe those are real! There's nothing like that to see where I live.

(Sorry for my grammar, english isn't my first language.)

There are a few pink and yellow moth species. I know I saw one in a National Geographic spread that looked like it was wearing a pink feather boa, but damn if I can find it again. So...here's a pink-bordered yellow moth for your perusal.

Thank you!

I live in Finland, all the moths I have seen are greyish/brownish or something like that. It's quite understandable though...

I love those rosy maple moths. I wish we had them around here.

This thread reminds me that when I was a little kid, I'd stomp on all the ants and when they died I would bawl my eyes out.
And I used to tear off moth/butterfly wings and put them on top of ant hills and watch them get dragged down by the ants.
What a weird child I was.
