Somehow this strikes me as unwise Anonymous
Anyone know the story behind the photo?

IIRC the kid and snake grew up together. I remember seeing video of him riding around on the snake, him laying on top as it went.
>> Anonymous
They must have fed the snake before this. I sure as hell wouldn't let an unfed giant snake near an infant.
>> Anonymous
no... it came out in the papers before. the kid grew up with the snake. he would play with it and stuff. he even puts power on the snake after bath. the family thinks that in their previous life they were lovers.

When you say the kid grew up with the snake do you mean the family owns the snake as a pet or the kid met it at the pool hall one day or some shit?

How cute! And they got reborn as a snake and a kid who is gonna have his face bitten off!

That snake must be powerful by now.

Which reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x89dY_m6wcU

When this was all over the news as "OMG those horrible people," I just thought it was actually pretty neat. The child obviously isn't getting hurt or he would have started crying, and these cobras are de-fanged.

hey love each other... until the day the snake finally decides the warm bodied animal is better suited as a meal instead of a traveling radiator

The cobras aren't de-fanged, dork. That's the house cobra. Cobras tend to be territorial, so if you have one living in your wood pile that's familiar and comfortable with your scent, it will defend its/your territory from wild cobras that will kill your baby..
The cobra in that video is being introduced to the new baby. Most snakes don't like to be messed with, and a way they show that is by striking with a closed mouth - like the cobra does to the baby.
If the cobra was biting the baby, he'd be biting down and gnashing his teeth into the kid's skin to get the venom to squeeze out.

A snake can't bite your face off unless you try to pull it off after it's latched on.

A snake isn't going to assume that someone they like and are familiar and comfortable with is a meal, even if he's small.
Besides, snakes act a certain way when they're hungry, and the kid probably knows this.
What you don't see in the picture are all the adults supervising. Those people have been living around those kinds of snakes for long enough to know what to watch out for..

Just because you have no experience with something (other than seeing the kind of damage it can do) doesn't mean nobody else does either.

i think there is something strange about the video. i've read that some cobras will strike with their mouths closed as a warning..but that baby had several warnings. when it coiled around the kids neck a little and was constantly "striking" ..i think that would've been when the kid got bit and given a nice dose of venom.

My dad used to keep pythons, and holy fuck are they strong. It's just a big tube of muscle.

I fully agree that it probably wouldn't hurt the baby for no reason, but if I had a kid I might wait till he was a little older to let him play with the snake.

I was talking about the retic and the burm that kid was hanging out with.

I didn't watch the video, but you'd know it if the cobra bit to inject venom. They don't do it like rattlers, they'll hold on and literally grind the venom in.

maybe, unless you were part of a culture that was intimate with snakes. Then you would be proud that your special child had such a rapport with such sacred animals.
