What is this Bird? Capt. Mudkip
I followed this bird around my house as it fluttered about and pecked at some weeds.

Would you fine gents be able to identify this bird for me?

I wasn't expecting anything too serious anyway. I was actually kinda hoping for something stupid.

Well. What area are you located in?

Did you catch it?

Why is it wearing some bling bling?

tits or GTFOoooh, wait a minute. . .tit. You're good.

It seems to have the body type of sparrows, vireos, and juncos. I would try looking up something in that general area.

Also zygodactyly (though neither foot's second back toe is visible). Seriously, IDing a bird like this is nearly impossible without knowing the general area.

Ok, "pecked at some weeds". Suggests (along with the green around its beak) that it either eats plant matter wholesale or isn't that picky about the good bits. The long toenails suggest a bird that grabs onto things and hangs around in bushes and bushy trees. The beak throws me off; it's kind of large for a sparrow yet small for a finch.

That's all I got. Damn weird looking bird. I'd be surprised if it were from europe.

It looks piebald to me. Whatever it is, this probably isn't its normal coloration

Hm. Could be a shrike of some kind. Take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loggerhead_Shrike for instance. Beak size and general body shape match, as does the tail shape and length. The overlapping mandible and colouration don't, though these could just be attributes of an adolescent bird.

The 'bling bling' on its leg that>>75767
mentioned indicates it's somebody's pet or something. I'd wager it's a finch or a canary of some sort.

Try looking around your neighborhood to see if anyone's lost a bird recently.

That anklet means it is someone's property.

Catch the bird and find its rightful owner for some sort of token reward.

Don't they ring birds sometimes to check up on how long they live, how far they migrate and so forth? That ring looks very much like the kind they'd put on pet birds, though.

And the pet theory would fit well with the unusual colouration. But does that look like a canary to anyone? I'm pretty sure pet finches don't look that way, especially in proportion to the ring.

beak looks like a finch, and it's probably marked by the government to check it's movements. It probably got mutated, because that ring is proof that it is not some tame bird.
