>> baaaawww my kitty has claws

Are you retarded? Declawing is not cutting off a cat's fingernails. Declawing means cutting off a large portion of a cat's fingers. Human fingers DO cause scratches. They manipulate objects called "guns" and "knives" which cause huge, nasty terrible scratches beyond anything a cat can do. Like any sane person, I support digital amputation as a punishment for violent criminals (particularly when weapons are involved.)

I also support the removal of lower jaws from dogs which have a violent history. Hind feet and ears should likewise be removed from pet rabbits, as they are capable of delivering scratches equally as bad as a cat's and bunnies are generally much more cuddlesome pets when they cannot hear your approach nor run away.

Such a procedure would be impractical for cats because it would be cheaper (and probably more humane in the long run) to euthanize them. Legislation is in the pipeline in my state to sieze any animal which is brought for declawing, after which an attempt will be made to find a responsible foster family before the animal is ultimately euthanized. Don't thank me, thank all enlightened citizens who embark on the forgotten enterprise of letter-writing.

I don't have cats anymore :(
Second I'm done university and thus out of dorms, I'm getting me a cat.
My parents gave my two cats away.
Plisken was black and white (named after the original Snake, the spelling of it being similar to Snake's name in MGS2 is just a happy coincidence and my mom being a shitty speller while at the vet) and smart. He knew how to open doors, just lacked the actual parts needed to do so. He also always had a smug look on his face 24/7.
My cat Ryuji, named after the character from the book Ring (because the book is better than the movie) loved to attack air. There would be nothing in particular but he would suddenly freak out and attack the air. I suspect he was a crack addict. He was also afraid of people thanks to me but still loved me (which makes me feel like a shitty pet owner, but it's not my fault that if I dropped him from 3 feet onto a pillow as a kitten he would bounce).

Can't believe so many people declaw their cats because they don't want "accidents". If you don't want an accident, then go an hero already, as life is full of accidents, bumps, nicks, bruises, cuts, etc, most of which are of course unavoidable, therefore an Accident!

Parents who refuse to accept this simple truth should not have kids. God forbid one of their kids will fall and break their leg from a bike/skateboard/swingset/staircase/ EVERYTHING!

>> Anonymous
>>266864

She can't climb, which is a natural instincr for cats since they love higher altitudes. She also can't stop herself from falling from those higher places. If she ever get's in a fight with some other creature she won't be able to defend herself. Oh yeah but why would you let her outside and let her feel the wind and the sun and eat some grass, maybe hunt, it's not like she is a living being, she's just a fucking piece of property kept inside to look cute and to be played with when it suits you. She could be doing so much more than sleeping and eating but what would you know.

Oh and since the only way for her to defend herself now when she feels threatened is to bite, she's going to bite harder to compensate, so chances are she's going to freak out on a guest or a kid visiting your house and she'll be smacked for that or even put to sleep because "she's too aggressive".

You make me sick.
>> Anonymous

generally if they still have hind claws then their mobility isn't that limited, I've seen declawed cats scale short trees. They compensate using the aforementioned monster bite and by raking even more furiously with their back claws.
This makes playing with them a lot more hazardous though, you have to go super gentle with them or leave them alone as even a playful bite can puncture you. Accidentally trip over/step on one in the dark and a hospital visit will probably be in order.

The furniture excuse might have been valid back in the middle ages when people made furniture out of cloth and dead trees, but this is modern times so we know your house is full of intrinsically worthless, ugly, uncomfortable plastic and metal shit from IKEA and there's no point in denying it. Unless your house has a real dapper paint job or your cat has decided that your eyelashes are toys there's no real benefit to it, you're just likely to make your pet more of a pain in the ass.
Vets don't even get away with declawing in the civilized world. The only reason there are no laws against the procedure in third-world countries like USA/Canada/Australia is the fact that veterinarians make mad $$$ from it and no one gives enough of a shit to oppose their lobbying muscle. Oh, and cats apparently devastate wildlife in Australia but I doubt removing their front claws would make a hell of a difference in that case. If they're outcompeting dingoes and tasmanian devils then a few extra pointy bits are probably not the only evolutionary advantage on their side.

>>seriously who the fuck cares

>>you fuckers probably wouldn't mind pulling all the teeth out of a dog that bites.

>> Anonymous
>>266938

Anon couldn't care less about it, because after all, anon wasn't the one who did it. What part of the simple fact still eludes you?

Yeah, declawing is painful for cats. Yeah, some cats live on in phantom pain, much like some humans do with their limbs removed. Guess what, cat still lives. It's not that big a fucking disability that you need to freak out every time the mere EXISTENCE of a declawed cat is mentioned, whether the owner is the one who got it declawed or no. Seriously, it's ALREADY BEEN DECLAWED, whether you like it or not. What the fuck do you want the owner to do, put it down before it lives out the rest of its life in possible phantom pain?

If you think declawed cats all live in so much fucking pain and disability that would hamper their quality of life, go round them up and put them down en masse instead of sprouting empty bullshit rhetoric.

I'm not whoever has their cat declawed, but I don't let my cat out of the house for her own safety. There's a bunch of niggers and retards and shit around my neighborhood and chances are if I let her out she won't be coming back, as some cats do seem to inexplicably disappear.

I never claimed wanting the owner actually do anything else than rethink her attitude (and other pro-let's-cut-our-pets) towards the subject and thus prevent more cats having to deal with the same fate. I never claimed to be looking for anything else.

Why does she need to "rethink" her position, dipshit? She's not the one who did it, she was neutral to the declawing position. If anything, she will advocate declawing just because some fag on the internet decided to dress her down for something she didn't do anyway.

Also, most cats don't give a shit about being declawed. Again, if you think it's extremely barbaric and if it's so godamn painful for the cats, then round up the cats and gas them, instead of swimming in your "europe full of 3rd world countries is better than America" bullshit.

Yeah, because racial issues and human rights are TOTALLY the same thing about declawing cats.

>> Anonymous
Declawing is retarded not only because of the medical issues that later arise as a result (meaning large vet bills later in life) but because it causes behavioral issues including the tendency to piss and shit all over to mark territory. The reason the number of declawed cats that wind-up being turned over to shelters is disproportionately large compared to percentage of declawed cats total is because people who get their cats declawed are morons who were never suited to owning a cat in the first place and because of the harm that's been done to the cat.

What about if it's for the owners life? My old apartment manager had a cat and those two absolutely loved each other. However the manager got really ill and had to take this medicine that thinned his blood so much that a single cut could cause him to bleed to death naturally they had the cat declawed after that so it wouldn't accidentally kill it's owner. Now if you ask me I would not mind cutting off the tips of my fingers in order to save someone I loved.

The sad conclusion is that the manager died about six months later and the cat died about two days after him ;_;

I realize you didn't have the cat declawed. My post wasn't in response to you. Unfortunately, however, whoever had the cat declawed probably got rid of it due to one of the issues you mentioned- especially if that household had other pets, such as dogs, in which case it probably DID piss and shit all over, in response to being unable to remark territory with the glands in its paws - or because of normal cat behavior they couldn't deal with. And, unfortunately, once your cat reaches its senior years there's a fairly large chance it will suffer severe arthritis.

Yes, and I've also owned dogs and over one summer I was unfortunate enough to have to take care of a rabbit.

Unless you live out in the boonies like the militant anti-declawing anon, your city/township/whatever probably has laws against letting your pets roam freely. Not only is it disrespectful to other people's property, but loose pets are often a danger to wildlife and people.

I especially dislike loose cats, as they tend to hunt when out. My dog generally keeps them away from my bird feeder, but my neighbor, who doesn't like dogs, has to constantly deal with camping cats.

For whatever reason, people tend to ID dogs but not their cats; either that or there are a lot of feral cats in my location. On the few occasions I've come across an escaped dog contacting the owner is usually easy. Almost invariably I end up taking 2 or 3 unidentified cats to the pound each year.
>> Anonymous
>>267399
Leave the cats the hell alone unless they look unfed or sick in some way. Some cats are tricky and will slip out of their collars. One of my cats hates collars and somehow manages to loose it every few months. In the period of a day or two that she goes around collarless until I can get a new one for her, I'm afraid that some idiot will abduct her assuming she doesn't belong to anyone.

Plus my neighbors are cat hating douches that would just love and excuse to do something like take one of my cats to the pound even though they know very well that they belong to me and my family. And it's not like the cats are nuisances; they're quiet and mostly stay in my huge several acre backyard. The neighbors dogs however, are loud, destructive and frequently show up in my front and backyard to bark like crazy and harass the cats. One of the dogs killed my pet rooster a few years ago. Another attacked my friendly old dog (who recently died from cancer).

In short, let the cats roam, but round up the loose dogs: they need supervision, they're like curious toddlers that can kill big stuff.
>> Anonymous
>>267399

The ones that roam are usually feral. You can tell apart the owned cats and feral cats from how they moe their tails about.
>> Anonymous
>>267461In short, let the cats roam, but round up the loose dogs: they need supervision, they're like curious toddlers that can kill big stuff.

They both need supervision. Both will try to kill wildlife as food, amusement, or presents for you, both will stake out and defend territory, both can get into fights, and both can pick up diseases and parasites.

I'm forgiving of walking your dog or cat out without a leash, but just letting them roam? I'm sure you can think of a way to keep ID on them that they can't take off. If not a collar, then a loose harness or something.

He let me play with the pads and trim the nails one at a time. He hides his left paws under him when it is time for the left one, but still let me do the left one. No struggling or anything just with closes his eyes while I do them.

He also scratches things a bit less often.

He seen me clip my nails and got used to the sounds. It doesn't scare him as much. I also show him my nails after I trimmed them to let him know that it doesn't hurt.

Try to make this a relaxing experience. If you have to chase him down every time, then he'll associate it with something bad.

Like I said, he shows up regularly for that, so he probably knows this is another way of maintaining his claws.

I can also wet my hand in a bucket and rub his fur in the sun. He seems to like that. (He hates water in a tub.)

He puts his tummy next to my ear to put me to sleep, then when I closes my eye, he run downstairs for food. Fairly friendly cat.
