ITT: Bird owners!

I have a cockatiel and a budgie. When I have more money I'd love to get a bare-eyed cockatoo.

Picture related, its my tiel.

Nobody owns a bird?

That looks like a sprite to me.

My grandmother had a shitload of birds, damn things would never shut the fuck up and shit all over the damn house. The only bird I could see myself getting would be a Crow or a Raven.

sprite zero tastes awful :(

I had 2 but one died last night when it choked/broke it's neck on a rope that was holding it's swing. Pretty strange/retarted/sad way to die :'(

Now I have one lonely one :(

this actually happens more than you realize. Some get caught in the bells and hang. Really sad.

I have a Yellow-naped Amazon.

Yeah, tiels can be clumsy. Combined with their nosiness it's deadly like this sometimes.

I still find it hard to believe (being a budgie owner) how some birds are just the sort that it isn't safe to leave them alone even in a bird-safe room. Then again budgies are conservative and robust, so I guess I'm talking from the other end of the spectrum.

Haha yeah, I've noticed my budgie is a lot braver/smarter than my tiel.

Budgies are like little tanks. My two potter all around my room (while I'm there with them) and never get into serious trouble. One of them has taken to eating through DVD box sets though.

Shitty camera is shitty. This is my Dusky Conure, Rocky. He a little over a year old. He just took a bath, so he'd kind of ugly in the pic.

He's pretty clumsy, but hes pretty damn smart. He doesn't talk yet, but I'm trying to teach him.

I have two lovebirds, one a peach faced and the other some sort of...white breed?

Anyways, the peach faced one is a COMPLETE BITCH OH MY GOD. ALL IT DOES ALL DAY IS BITE AND SQUAWK BITE AND SQUAWK HONESTLY I would probably get rid of it if it didn't have such an awesome attitude/variety of RAGE sounding calls c:. It takes shit from no one.

The other one is a total suck up. He always natters and tries to snuggle in your neck. The peach face picks on him all the time because he's such a little wuss, which is why the two of them now reside on different floors of the house.

Both birds are built out of diamonds.

TL;DR lovebird or hatebird, both make for an awesome bird.

My budgie, which has no name
somewhat untame, cause it won't perch on my finger when its in the cage
I have to trick it into coming out with some millet, or just get on my finger and then pull the burd out at the speed of light

my parrot loves to dance, and loves to whistle at pretty girls whenever I have parties at my house. he has never whistled at a girl I don't find attractive, I think he can read my mind.

I have two budgies
One is quite a bit older and male and the other is pretty new/young and female(i'm guessing by the cere)

the male used to be way more friendly untill introduced to the female, now he doesn't even want to leave his cage :(

Yeah that happens quite a bit. Once they're with another bird they pretty much don't care about you anymore.

i wont let my parakeet have any other birdy friends.
he gets along fine with me and the dog.

A crappy pic of my two female budgies.

The older female used to be really close to me, but when I moved out of home and started uni I just didn't have enough time to socialise with her, hence the second budgie.

Yeah... they really couldn't give a damn about me as long as I keep bringing them seed. But watching two budgies hang out with eachother is better than watching one budgie stress herself to death.

are you from The Perch? I recognize that picture!

I have birds :)
I prefer the name Corella then bare-eyed though, such beautiful cockatoo's don't deserve such a dull overseas name!

Hey hey hey, give that bird a name. Start calling him (it's a male) by that name. That's one of the first steps to taming a budgie, that and be sure to look right at him when you talk to him and don't wear black clothes around him until he likes to sit on your shoulder.

About that looking thing, it's completely different from dogs. For birds looking at another is a way of saying that "this communication is for you specifically, and not for all birds around here in general".

As for "tricking" him into coming out? That's not trickery, that's play. Parrots love that sort of thing. Hand-feeding, whether with young or adult animals, is one of the best ways of gaining their confidence.

Dude I'm pretty sure the one on the right is a male. That blue cere there? Females usually have a light to tan to brown to dark brown ceres, and purple is for males and very young birds.

And yes, they do learn "not being tame" from one another. It sort of averages out. Two tame birds won't make one another less tame.

I also own a tiel. Old bird, 20-something years old at least. She doesn't care for toys, but likes mirrors, head scratches, and getting misted by water. I also own ringneck doves in an outdoor coup; they're wonderful if you raise them from a baby, so tame and cuddly.
(Pic is one of my white doves protecting her nestbox.)
