Hey /an/, on monday morning I picked up a 6 week old puppy (dachshund/rottweiler mix) and she's been pretty good, I haven't had a dog since I was 10 so it's mostly a new experience for me. I've been doing pretty well with housebreaking so far, shes peed on the carpet a couple times but as soon as she does I pick her up and take her outside.

I'm just wondering if anyone has more tips for housebreaking other than being consistent with taking her out and making sure to catch her in the act.

Other than that, enjoy a picture of the puppy. :)

hi there
and congrats on your new companion!
With my two dogs, I have found that the most easy and working way is the one you described. With my second dog it also helped, that he had been kept outdoors (summer tiem, so no freezing for him!) all the time, so it was more natural for him to do his thingies outside. He had an accident of total 4 times, which were my fault because I didn't wake up fast enough to take him out.

They both had a pile of newspaper for thingies, but they weren't keen on doing on it, they preferred outdoors.

I also took few days off from work to be with them the first days, I think it also helped.

How did you get a dachshund/rottweiler mix? Is that even possible? dachshunds get no taller than my ankle. and i can ride on my brothers rottweiler who is only 2 years old. That dog is huge!

I'm seconding the is-that-breed-possible?

OP, you're doing everything right, housebreaking wise.
Take her out every 2 hours, which i'm sure you're doing anyway.
I'd put newspaper down by doors. Normally, accidents happen here since they start to associate outside with business anyway.
It'll be awhile until she's fully trained. Keep this in mind if you start to get frustrated. It took our newest golden till he was about 6 to 8 months old. Perhaps he was just special pup, but you'll find even when they seem housebroken that they may forget or just not have the patience to wait for you every time.
Just don't get frustrated if/when that happens.

Moar pictures? I fucking love rotts and any variations there of. Such an amazing breed.

It is possible! I found a site that had some pics of a Rottweiler/Dachshund mix.

Next to the pug.

The best mix i've ever seen at the vet hospital where I work is a mastiff/jack russel mixed. The mastiff was sleping and the jack russel snuck up on her ;)

My method is if they had peed on the carpet when I'm out of the room, I push their nose in the pee then walk them outside. That way my dogs eventually knew they had to pee outside. I also kept a pee mat by the outside door for them so they wouldn't just pee in any corner that suited them.

They learnt fairly quickly which was good considering my job means I'm leaving them alone for 9 hours a day.
