Dear /an/,

In my life I have seen a kind of worm 3 times but I still don't know what it is. Noone I asked ever heard of the creature.
When I was digging in my garden I found a dark red cocoon like thing with one rounded side and one pointed side with a black needle. It was devided in 3 hard segments and about 2 or 3 cm long.
It was completely motionless unless I squeezed it a bit between my fingers. The pointed side made slow round movements as if it was trying to catch something. When I put it down again it became motionless again.
So I decided to put some dirt on it and leave.
When I came back 4 hours later it was still in the exact position where I put it and only moving when I squeezed it.

Pic is a poor mspaint impression of the worm

It is not a worm, it is a insect pupae (insect in cacoon or chrysalis hibernation).

that reminds me of this bug that was in my kitchen, it was on it's back and not moving so i thought it was dead. I bend down with a napkin to pick it up and flush it and suddenly it arches it's back and with a snap it launched itself up like 6 inches and landed on it's feet and ran away under the counter. what the hell did I see /an/?
