dear /an/

i need advice on a pet

the budget is not a problem, but the time i can allot to spend is, since i have a fulltime job and school

can you suggest something interesting and not requiring care more than once a day? preferably less. I would really hate to get some little rodent and then have it suffer from boredom...

Get a snake.
Specifically, a ball python.

Aside from getting the right tank and the right temperature, easiest fucking pet ever.

Get a pair of rats.

They really just...amuse themselves together. And they're cheap and amusing.

i heard rats are really social

are you certain they wont get lonely?
>> Anonymous

Not if they're in pairs, no. They don't get lonely at all.

But if rodents aren't your thing, get a some sort of lizard or snake.

Rats need socialization, even if they are in pairs. Sure, a pair of rats may survive fine with just a few minutes of attention a day, but they really NEED more. One might think that getting three or four rats would make them need even less attention, but it makes it even more complicated.

I would suggest a gerbil or hamster. Partially because I hate you and want you to get bitten, but also because they are not near as social as rats are.

Or maybe some seamonkies.

oh no i can devote half an hour and more on some days but not every day, thats the thing. About one day a week i work dusk till dawn.

Then a pair of trio of rats would be great. Get them a good cage and toys and spend as much time with them as you can. If possible, get rats that are the same age and from the same litter. Girls are more likely to get tumours which can become expensive to remove, but they are also more active and playful (and generally more intelligent). Male rats are lazy and cuddly, but have huge testicles that freak people out.

Tips...um...
Don't get them a wheel that doesn't have a smooth surface, and only feed them blocks, not seeds.
That's about all, besides the fact that rats are quite cheap. If you want to hold rats and pet them, I recommend males. If you like watching rats hyper and playing around in their cage, then get females.

No, no, no.
Don't listen to this faggots.
Rats need a lot of attention. You have to clean their cages every few days, age their water everyday(which basically no one does, but i do), etc. It just wouldn't be fair to the rats.

Why won't he let you get a snake?
I didn't say python.. I said boa. Ball boas don't get that big and I don't see why he's being a shit about it. Shit. You can HIDE the thing from it. Its really not that hard. Stick it under your bed with a heating pad or something.

just don't give them cola or ice cream or m&ms if they have diabeetes, BITTER

LOL

Hugeeee lie here. Of course you have to change their cage once a week and give them new water, but they don't need bundles attention like a ferret or a guinea pig does.

Of course, they enjoy being handled, but half an hour or an hour a day is MORE than enough.

Along with the ocassional treat. I have four rats, a ferret, two guinea pigs, and a cat in my house. I know what I'm talking about.

Get two or more bird, preferable paraceets.

pros:
-entertain themself
-entertain you
-they dont need much time:
-feed them if theres none left (~every 3rd day),
-change water everyday (~20 seconds),
-exchange the sand/whaatever the should have on the cageground every 3rd day (~1 minute or 2)
-clean the cage once a week (~15 minutes,do this e.g. on sundays)
-neither the pets nor the food costs much, but the cage (a good, big one,not these 20cm*202cm*10cm thingies) is rather expensive,

cons:
-can be loud and sometimes annoying (especically if you have more than 3)
-if you want them to fly around, you need to make the room "bird"->can be quite a lot of work(and if you clip their wings,i clip your leggs :))
-they make quite a lot of dirt, especially the feathers

get some kind of reptile, like a leopard gecko or anole or something like that. They are perfect for schedules like yours.

And if you are not afraid of spiders like 90% of /an/ is, consider gettign some kind of tarantula.

Whatever you get, name is crackers.

>> op
ok it can be either any non-snake reptile that is NOT fed by crickets, a bird that is not too loud and not too needy, or rats

I'm getting a fucking bobcat.
they're $1400 trained cubs, but they only eat 2 lbs of burger a week, and they're legal to own in my state.
they're also known to be much more affectionate and caring than regualar housecats.

Don't get a fucking animal if you can't care for it properly.
