Yep, rats rarely have serious fights when they meet, especially females. Introduce them outside of the cage, it helps to change the bedding and move any accessories around so female 1 isn't so territorial. There will be wrestling and squeaking, but they should do fine.
I have had solo rats, and typically if they're raised alone and given plenty of time outside of the cage (basically, they hang out with you anytime you're on the computer/reading/playing games or even hang with you at a friend's house) they do okay. But it's always best to have more than one just in case you don't have the time to play with her, and rats do tend to get depressed as they get older and slower.
