Herro /an/. I have a question about dogs; when they have mucus-like ooze from their eyes, what exactly is the cause? My 2.5 y.o. Basset Hound has had eye boogers for about nine months (my dad refuses to bring it up at the vet's, and I never bring her there myself) and I just figured it's something she picked up from the nasty local dog park.

Aside from her pawing me when I wipe the crap away from the bottom of her eyes, she doesn't seem to mind it being there. :/

I thought it was the same kind of eye-gunk humans have after sleeping. Like, just junk that ends up there after tearing.

It's just snot. Like we get in our eyes sometimes, except we have fingers to wipe it out more often.

One of my parents' dogs gets eye boogers all the time. Sometimes it looks like he's got film over his eyeballs. The vet says it's just allergies; we wipe them away but they don't bother the dog.

she probably has trouble with one of her inner eyelids. they have 3 im told, theyre tricky and go wrong sometimes. my little lab/beagle has a problem with one eye. one vet says its a birth defect and requires (minor) surgery. another vet recommends visine artificial tears. she cant use that eye very well and its constantly watering. dunno if that helps.
