I have an axolotl, which is a species of aquatic salamander. She's a pretty awesome pet, I get a lot of comments about her. Pic is not mine, but looks similar.

I've got a red eared slider named maxwell.

We feed him tiny goldfish.

He's got beautiful glittery eyes, and is maybe two and a half years old.

They often die/drastically shorten their lifespan by doing that.

So how about, no.

Owner of the axolotl here.>>116497has it right. I'm not going to give my salamander hormones just to make it look like a tiger salamander for a few weeks and then die.

I've been searching for a way to get one. Where did you get your's?

I got mine from a biology lab after they were done with her. I believe she originally came from the breeding colony at Indiana University, so you could see if you can order one through their website. If not, I suggest going through the forums at caudata.org, they have a section with people looking to adopt salamanders. Maybe you can find someone near you. Make sure to do your research first, though - you need to have to tank set up and cycled before you ever get the animal. Good luck!

Forgot to mention - don't get one from a pet store. Pet stores rarely know how to care for these guys, and axolotls from pet stores are often underfed or have limbs/gills missing from aggressive tankmates. These grow back, but a lot of the salamanders are just too stressed out and they end up dead. Save yourself the heartbreak and just get one somewhere else.

I have a leopard gecko named Godzilla (my brother named him). He's been with us for almost ten years now. Still as lazy and weird as ever.

I got a 2 year old Burmese Python. I called her Goldie, as she's albino.
