Me again. Here's my new leopard gecko. He's only about two months old and might actually be a she since it's practically impossible to sex at this point.

Any name ideas?

i want to see him eat but he always seems to not be hungry until I am otherwise occupied so I just leave him two crickets at a time and replenish them when they disappear

how do I force him to entertain me with his carnivorous antics

Cattle prod.

Wait until night when all he has is his heating lamp on. The geckos mostly come out at night, mostly.

I actually saw him hunting early this morning. He saw the cricket, tensed up, and started wagging his tail like a damn rattlesnake. Then he lunged.

He missed, though, and then he had to sleep it off for about 10 hours, and then croaked at me when I tried to hold him and put him in a box because I had to clean his cage. I've made sure that I put no more than one or two crickets in the cage at a time, and they usually disappear when I check on him a few hours later, although I've been checking for refugees and finding one or two several times.

also I decided that his name is Duke

if it turns out to be a female then i'll cross that bridge when I get to it
>> Anonymous
If it ends up being female, call her Dutchess.

Duke/Dutchess. Y'see?

I never change my animals' names when they end up being different genders... it's too much work.
>> Anonymous
i had leopard geckos but got annoyed with the smell of calcium powder, the sound of crickets and having to clean them out.

>>319520
"Dutchess Nukem" really doesn't work. I'm also still not sure if I want to name him Duke now. Still thinking Gordon or Elvis or Cain or who the fuck knows. For now he's "lizard."

>>319547
You CAN keep the crickets out in the garage or some shit, you know.

I'm starting to become a little concerned. He hasn't eaten since yesterday and I've tried everything I can to encourage him to hunt. After I cleaned his cage out yesterday, I've been adjusting the temperature to get it right in the 84-88 range that's supposed to be ideal for these guys, and I tossed in a few crickets, some dusted, some not dusted. He's been sleeping in his cool hide all day (78 degrees) and seems to be completely disinterested in his food. Could it just be the stress of acclimating himself to a new environment? I may have been handling him a bit too much (picking him up and inspecting him for any obvious signs of illness). Any advice?

Geckos are reptiles. They only need to eat about every 2 days when they are babies, and then only once a week when they are fully grown. He's not eating because he's just not hungry.
>> Anonymous
>>319997
I keep hearing conflicting reports about these things. I was told by one person that I should feed him 2-4 crickets daily. Should I be dusting every other feeding or just once a week?
>> Anonymous
Also, while I'm posting, does anybody know what variety he is? I tried looking up pictures of different morphs but breeders are only interested in informing you of their expensive mack snow and midnight blizzard and super hypo tangerine with anti-lock brakes and optional moon roof.

You got yourself a nice high-yellow normal there.

I think he ate the dusted cricket I gave him this morning but I'm not sure :|

Are you keepig him alone? Leopards should usually be kept three together, one male and two females. They are rather social creatures, even it they do not look like, and mostly give up and die when kept alone. You need two females for the male's sexual drive is so massive, he literally fucks the female to death when there is no alternative partner. Male with those females as two females together become territorial and fight each other, mostly to death.

>>318180

also, use sand for the terrain. makes them feel more homey. an empty terrarium with only 1 stuff to climb wont do it.

KEEP AN OSCAR WITH YOUR GOLDFISH

Now I'm no stranger to trolling but it seems to me that giving out advice like this to a person who hasn't done research on their own (I have, you dipshit samefag) could actually indirectly cause harm to the animal. Think about that before you post, not that you give a shit. You're aiming low by trolling one of the least populous boards on 4chan anyway.

His name is Grendel, actually. I finally decided.

I call his terrarium "Heorot" and pretend that the crickets I am feeding him are actually drunken 9th century Danes.
