Hi /an/. I've lurked here occasionally for a while now, but never really posted. But we just got some chicks and I thought you might appreciate their cuteness. Shitty pics, but I hope you enjoy!

Idiot that's never kept pet chickens correctly.

>>282457
Ameraucanas are awesome, they're the ones that lay blue eggs right?

Ameraucana

Yep. Pure-breds (Araucanas?) lay only blue, but a lot of the more mixed ones (like ours) sometimes lay reddish, or so they say.

I'm really interested in how they grow up. As soon as I've moved and got more land, I'm going to get some of them too.

I thought sumatras were only black?

Well Pippi's pretty cunty right now, but we're gonna be around them and paying attention to them fairly regularly, so they should grow up fairly friendly. Plus...mean? Who cares! Eggs! :D

>>282458
We're gonna take a lot of pictures of them, probably. Maybe I'll come back with the cream of the crop! They grow pretty fucking fast, so I'll probably have a pretty decent variety of photos. Most of the pictures of Ameraucanas I've seen are pretty fucking gorgeous, though. I'm excited about our Wyandotte, too. She's gonna be gorgeous.

I think those are a lot more common. They look pretty similar, though. Blue's have some more variation, and are a bit lighter, but not by much.

The pitch black one is adorable.

Cute chicks. Call me an idiot but I never realized they come in so many colours. Also, I really need to become vegan again...

But then I can't give you eggs in a few months...

>>282478
Yeah, she's gorgeous. She's really calm, too. And has a tiny head with really narrow eyes. Looks like some sort of model-philosopher-chicken.

OP should've said 'in b4 witty, knee-slapping comments about eating chickens."

We're actually having a party tomorrow night to show them off and eat all the raspberries we just picked. Might pick up some chicken as well for the lulz.

Also we might end up eating some of them once they get older, but it's unlikely. We get attached easily.

Also Pippi is in my sleeve right now. :D

Pecky Sue.

Ahahahahaha. Brilliant.

This is the first time I've seen a cinnamon queen - really, green heads?
>> Anonymous
>>282509
Green heads are probably dyed.
>> Anonymous
>>282509
Haha no. The breeder had them marked to distinguish them. Dunno why, though. They're fairly different than the other yellow chicks that were in the coop. They have these gorgeous dark stripes right under their wings.

Some of the others had kind of scraggly wings. Our's has fucking gorgeous wings, though. Really big, too.

On a more serious note, I don't see a problem with eating pet chickens. I mean, unless you have a problem with eating ALL chickens, why draw the line somewhere?

And no, I'm not talking about shit I don't know, I once ate a cow (well, not the whole thing) I named and knew for a couple years. So yeah.
>> Anonymous
>>282513
Well we don't have any moral issues with it, but if we tried we'd probably CHICKEN (lolololol) out and let the girl keep living. We're sentimental as fuck.
>> Anonymous
>>282513
There's nothing morally -wrong- with it (without getting in to veganism here), but I kind of worry about someone who can get attached to something, then slaughter and eat it.
>> Anonymous
>>282515

AHAHAHA
>>282516
I think it's a bit different when it's a chicken. You know. Chickens. They were created by Cthulhu to feed people.
>> Anonymous
>>282520
But...LOOK AT HOW CUTE THEY ARE.

Also I don't think the animal really matters if you're really attached to it.
>> Anonymous
>>282520
They're birds, so they're intelligent- it's just that most people keep them in farm situations where you don't ever get to interact with them much when they're growing up and they're all crowded and stressed to hell anyway. So they could make good pets, it's just most people don't bother. They taste good, and they're also cute. I just couldn't combine pet AND dinner.

Oh, I know. I used to hang out on an organic farm raising chickens (that's how I met yonder cow that I ate) and they're cool critters. I'm sure they'd make great pets. And, hey, if you do have 'em as pets, whether you eat 'em or not, that's free eggs man. And I love eggs. Much moreso than I love meat.
