sup /an/?

so i moved off to college, which is cool and all, but i miss my dog and two cats. basically i just miss having animals around. Unfortunately I live in a dorm where i can't have cats or dogs, so what does /an/ suggest? I can't think of any animal worth having that isnt a cat or a dog (or a monkey, but seriously...a monkey in a dorm?) so i was thinking of buying a plant...specifically a San Pedro cactus. That'll give me something to care for...plus i can cut it down and trip balls whenever i want.

does /an/ have any suggestions for dorm animals, or comments on my cactus idea?

I had a betta fish for about a year. I loved him so much, he died recently though :[ I'd recommend one, they can live in relatively small bowl that only needs cleaning twice a month and you'll only have to buy food for them once because the little can of betta food comes with a lot of pellets and he only eats a few a day.
>plus i can cut it down and trip balls whenever i want.
Please explain, it is relevant to my interests.

yeah but fish are...kinda boring. like they have no personality, you cant pet them or play with them etc...idk to each his own i geuss but fish seem boring (not to mention smelly)

as for the tripping, san pedro is a powerful psychedelic. if ingested, its basically mescaline (same as peyote). plus its perfectly legal to own a san pedro cactus (unlike peyote)

they're interesting plants, although sort of expensive but w/e i can live with that.

Not the best way to keep a betta fyi. Retard gimmick marketing at its finest.

are you allowed reptiles? blue tongue skinks are awesome
(www.bluetongueskinks.net)

bearded dragons are cool too
(www.beardeddragon.org/bjive)

but for something smaller id say some sort of gecko...cresteds are really cool.

believe it or not, BTS and beardies (and some other reptiles) are actually quite cuddly,...mine love falling asleep on me and going places with me. they learn to recognize their owners too.

they really don't smell...thankfully. nothing like a rodent smell or anything. their cages have to be pretty big though

I had this problem. I tried fish but even though I loved them I found they were difficult to care for because of 1) having to make a three hours road trip four times a year and 2) my school's water was SHITTY.

I ended up starting up with some hermit crabs and they're working out great :> If you have the patience they make great pets to watch. They do crazy shit constantly.

Also they aren't easy. Actually they are harder than fish. But they are just so cool.

ok in all my college experience i have found a good quirky pet is a good way to draw in the ladies. reptiles are good corn snakes and ball pythons (i have a 2 year old living with me in my dorm) are the best. also a well maintained saltwater fish tank will get you laid and it is very relaxing to work on or just watch the pretty fish. i used to keep a 40 gallon tank in my dorm but then i decided it was too much of a bitch to move it between breaks so i donated my tank to the lab i work in i do not recommend just dropping off unwanted pets at labs but i work in this lab and my fish are now its mascot and i still take care of them whilw i am at school) some good choices for a first time salt tank keeper are clownfish, damsels, dwarf lions, sharp nose puffers, psudochromis, and gobies are all great choices

Are you even allowed to have anything in your dorm besides fish? Usually you can't.
