My cat had kittens about three weeks ago. The kittens are getting bigger now, and are a bit more independent. They'll play together or sleep while Grimm (my cat) isn't in the box with them.

But here's my question...

Sometimes Grimm will lick the kittens, and then bite them. I'm worried that she might hurt one of them. Also, she's taken to being a bitch in general. She gets sulky and moody. Though she rarely does it to me, she will sometimes bite onto one of my family members.

I think that her behavior has something to do with the attention everyone pays to the kittens now. I think there's a notable connection between my showing her more attention and my not being bitten by her as often.

Anyone else have this happen? I'm not so worried about us, but it concerns me that she would bite her own kittens. D:

The picture is from when they're a bit younger. And she's just feeding.

She'll lick the kittens a little bit, but then she'll just bite them. I've never seen that before. It's just grooming?

My cat did that too when she had kittens. Soon she should start tackling them and biting their necks before cleaning them. I think it's how they teach their kittens to hunt.

This is very good, alright.

This is also good. She's a pretty independent cat. For lack of a better way to put it, I think that having kittens kind of cramped her style. Lol.

One of my cats turned into a total bitch after she had kittens. She hated everyone. I could tell that she didn't like how the kittens got all of the attention and how people brought them food all the time. She was a good mom up until it was time to ween them, and then she hated her kittens. We kept three out of the nine kittens, and to this day (three years later) she still hates the kittens and pretty much everyone else (except me, usually, because I give her lots of attention and food). She won't even be in the same room as one of her kittens without hissing and growling like crazy. She acts like the cats are still trying the nurse or something, but they just want to play with her or lay down next to her. The smallest of the kittens that we kept sneaks up behind the mom and sleeps next to her :3

Pic is of a rare moment when mom(on the far left) and two of her kittens were on the same bed. Shortly after this was taken, she got angry over their presence and attacked the smaller kitten because she's a jerk and takes out her anger on the smaller scared kitten :(

I've had this happen too. I swear Kirin (mama kitty) would bite them and stuff to wake them up, 'cause they always got more active after she's bitchy with them.
But she was a good mama, and we kept one that's now bigger than here, lol.
But they get along, like best buds.
Here's Kirin

It always irks me how people will rush in and start playing with and handling the kittens and never pay attention to the mother. Whenever my cats had kittens I would also give attention to both the kittens and the mother at the same time. In doing this they would never move the kittens to out-of-the-way places.
