We used to have a male canary. But we wanted to find a mate for him, so we bought a female one, but didn't ask what we need to do for them to mate.
In case you don't know, this is what you must do: You need to keep them in a separate room for a few weeks without being able to see each other, so they hear each other only. Then move the female's cage in the same room as the male one and keep it there for a few more weeks, then move them next to each other for about a week or two, and only then open their doors next to each other so their cages are adjacent, if they like each other the male goes in the female's cage and they mate.
We didn't do that, we just threw the female one in his cage, so he grabbed her from the neck and instantly killed her in a cool move. I almost said "Fatality!" but my mom didn't really like it.
