I've heard that 90% of cat's like these are deaf. It wouldn't surprise me at all, but is it true or just bullshit?

Deaf or not, they ARE cute.

It's true, a lot of blue eyed white cats are deaf. Not sure if it's as high as 90% though. It's a shame, since those types of cats are my favourite.

Generally there are three types of white cats with blue eyes, and one of these is the deaf kind (if I remember correctly). The rule is - if the white covers the ears (therefore, often the eyes as well) it has a chance of being deaf.

That particular cat looks like a red point oriental of some kind so I highly doubt it's deaf.

The allelic combination that gives pur white fur and blue eyes is usually paired with the gene for deafness though. Something in my mind is telling me it's even more likely if the cat is long-haired but I'm not sure about that

I have a white cat with two different colored eyes that is deaf. I heard the same thing - white cats are more prone to deafness.. and then the odd-eyed thing makes it even more likely.

Odd-eyed cats usually only have one deaf ear (if any), on the same side as their blue eye.

my sister has a blind cat that, aside from occasionally bumping into things when startled/chased, gets around perfectly fine and even plays with toys a great deal.

How are deaf cats? Seems like it'd be tougher since the vision is 2 dimensional anyways...at least a hearing cat can localize things in 3 dimensions
