OK. It looks like you have either a yellow belly slider or a red ear slider.
Did you get your turtle about a year ago? It looks about the size of mine that I got in August. They told me it would only grow a few inches and only live 3 years. Yeah- it will be 1 foot and 35 years. But anyways.
By the time your turtle reaches about a foot, you are supposed to have AT LEAST a 60-gallon tank. Usually it is supposed to be about 120 gallons by the time it gets full sized. Also, you NEED to keep your turtle outside to get some sun, or you need a UV light (special light bulb) on your tank, otherwise it will get soft shell, which is fatal.
You can buy these things at Petsmart, I am personally by an Aquarium World. Just look in the phone book. Tanks aren't too hard to clean. You can get a turtle waste degrader to put in your tank, too. Also, there is something called an "under-rock filter" which is a HUGE help in cleaning tanks. You will also need a regular filter, and make sure your turtle has something to climb on to get out of the water if it wants too.
Finally, make sure you aren't feeding it too much protein, feed it lots of plants (which you can also buy at Petsmart) and don't feed it too much. You can tell if it is getting too fat if its back legs have rolls.
Good luck! And you can ask any petsmart worker or the rest of the internets for more info.
