Sup /an/. I need some advice from my favorite group of animal lovers. I'm looking to get a dog, preferably under 2,000 dollars. I want something big, and I mean HUGE. Preferably with short hair, but not a must. Also a friendly breed would be preferred. Any suggestions?

So far we have Rottwielders, and Great Danes.

Swissies are made of win

Also, I'm pretty sure there are shorthair ovcharkas, the central asian has a smooth coat (i think..). And you could always shave it down.

Malamute, Bernese Mountain Dog, St. Bernard.

Great Danes are fantastic and easy to train. I haven't had much personal experience with Mastiffs but the ones I've met have been very gentle and friendly.
Both drool a whole fucking lot though.

As for long hair dogs - Malamutes, German Shepards (if you get them from the right people they can get up to 150 pounds, though I'd advice against it because their hips are fucked up enough as it is), Bernese Mountain Dogs, St. Bernards, Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, Great Pyrenees.

I find that Belgian malinois are the best. They're a little taller than rottweilers, but not as stocky. They're FIERCE guard dogs, and really quite obedient. I have 2, and out of the many dogs i've had in my lifetime, they're my favorite.

Irish wolfhounds are gorgeous, extremely gentle, and affectionate, and also, they're huge. They generally love people, especially children, but I've heard they don't get along with smaller animals too well. They tend to be extremely co-dependent upon you though, if that's a problem.

Bull mastiff.

It's where it's at.

I would suggest the Rhodesian Ridgeback, I just got myself one of these bad boys 3 weeks ago. He is 9 wks and already 28lbs and stands to your knee's. Thier lbs is all the way up to 130 but packs a punch, they were breed to hunt and kill lions and thier markings on thier backs make them always look aggresive but they are very loyal and love thier masters. "The mission was located at a crossroad and stop place for the many travellers crossing the region, among whom a number of "white hunters" after big african preys, elephants and lions." --http://www.murenga.com/irr.htm

Again prob not as big as you want but these dogs do pack a punch..

Strong Agree. I have a Rhodesian, and not only is he short hair, awesome looking, and gi-fucking-gantic (he'll eat food straight off of a table. Motherfucker stole an entire pizza once but putting one paw on the stove and just moving in and snatching the thing.), but he's one of the kindest dogs I've owned. Then again, I think that's more a function of raising the dog right than anything.

(Plus the singer from Red Hot Chili Peppers has one. How can you go wrong? Seriously?)

Like any dog if you raise them with the small animals (like cats) then they can get along.

Get a Great Pyrenese they are adorable, huge, and not very active, they are happy sleeping all day, gentle with kids, and pretty. They drool a lot though and are protective.
