This is the best advice on the thread. Iv had 3 ferrets and each of them needed emergency vet care for something dumb.. despite me ferret proofing my home and their room they WILL find a way to hurt themselves. No exceptions.

Thankee. I do what I can.

OP, you should try petfinder.com, look in the classifieds sections and enter your state. You can probably find someone in your general area with ferrets and a cage they need to give away.

I concur. I found my second from a local ferret adoption society. Cost 1/3 the price of one at Petco and she was litter trained, had all her shots and spayed.

I had 2 ferrets. Very cute and fun to have, and I'm kind of thinking of getting another. They would sleep with me at night lol. One died of back cancer, and the other just randomly died...was awkward. He was eating food, and I ran in and picked him up, and his head went limp..just lifeless. Then he began to stiffen up over the next 5 minutes and I knew he was dead :( Was terrible. One was white and other was sable.

Ferret-proofing your home is much akin to child-proofing your home, only the ferrets can get into much much more. Always watch them when they're loose. While you think that they might not be able to fit into that tiny space, trust me, they probably can.

I had a ferret that once climbed inside my PC tower (thankfully while it was off) through a small fan-grill when she was a kit.

I had a small knot-hole in the wood floor to my house, and when loose, one of my ferrets dove into it. Lost her for a day, and ended up having to tear up floorboards to get her back, but she's okay and alive to this day.

Ferrets will get along with cats and dogs if you raise them from a young age around them, and will also become used to small children.

HOWEVER---ferrets love to steal. They will take anything soft and chewy, however, they usually will keep things in one or two hiding places. (Under a large charge, low-lying coffee table, dressers, closets).

Try to adopt a ferret from a kennel if possible. They're usually the most well-adjusted.
