/an/ =[ My puppy is dying.
What should I do? I bought her from the pound about 6-7 years ago. She's almost 17 now (Human years). She's always had problems and I think she's almost completely blind, Cataracts or something? And she has back hip problems so she can't walk very well sometimes. She started not looking so well last year but it's more like random burts when she's doing fines and not doing well.
I want to keep her around for as long as possible, and I really don't want to put her to sleep.
am I being selfish?
Pic related it's her a few years ago

You should take her to a vet and see what he says. If she's living with pain and he can't do anything about it (he might be able to prescribe ibuprofen if she is, my dog had joint pains and the ibus made his last few years painless) or you can't pay for the options, it'd be in her best interest to put her down.

ITT get a professional opinion. If the vet says it's time to put her down and you don't want to, get a second opinion from another vet (asap, don't drag this out, should be within the week, if not the day after). He'll probably say the same thing and if he does, you know what to do.

If she is suffering let her go. It's the hardest thing, but that's the right thing to do.
Cry a lot and think of how she was when she was healthy. There's no reason to keep her alive if her body can't enjoy a good quality of life.
In a few months when you're feeling better, think about rescuing another dog.
Value the time you had with her, she won't be dead she will live forever in your heart.

I had to do that a few months back. I didn't want to, and it was really difficult, but I finally did it. Still hurts when I think about it, but it was the right thing *Sigh*

i had a 16 year old that had leg and back issues, i had her on pain meds her last year and she did great w/ them. but when they stopped helping her, i only had one option! she was the best dog in the world and i loved her, and it i felt proud to give her what she needed, she was in pain and i helped her. if you love her you will do whats best, weather its trying to decrease her pain, or put her down. if shes been a loyal friend to you, be a loyal friend to her
