So, /an/.

My two pet ferrets have fleas. I've already given them a flea bath, but it didnt seem to do much of anything, except cut back on how much they have to scratch for a few days.

I used flea shampoo meant for kittens. My question is, is flea shampoo pretty universal in what it does? Do I need stuff meant for ferrets? Or just a stronger shampoo?

Pic related, this is my Elsie.

And this is Rookie. Was it really necessary to show both of them? Nah, probably not. Are they cute enough to warrant it? Hell yeah.

Use flea killer for the carpets. You may kill the fleas on the animal, but they can escape to the carpet until its safe for them to jump back onto the animal. Also their fleas are the same fleas that dogs and cats use, so the shampoo you use on them shouldn't really matter.

You could try this stuff: http://www.ferret.com/search.asp?SKW=div_08,ferret,Flea,Tick&Category=Flea%20Control
Marshall Flea *Foam* worked really well for me once, but I don't think they make it any more.

I think you can use Advantage for cats on ferrets, not totally sure though, you should call a vet and ask.

You can use Advantage on ferrets...just make sure you give them a very small dose.

It is easiest to buy a full dose and a syringe...and take out little by little while keeping the cap taped. It lasts all through flea season that way.

Vets can tell you how much to give to one...I forget exactly.

Also, in case you're retarded, don't stick your ferret with the needle and inject it. The needle takes the flea stuff out of the bottle, and then you take it off, and squeeze the liquid onto your ferret's neck.

Dose them every month or so.

OP here.

Planning to go out and get some flea killer for the carpets tomorrow. Should I also treat my bedding and clothes (since the ferrets live in my room), or is a cycle through the wash enough to kill any fleas on them?

I'll make sure to call the local vets and see how much advantage to give the ferrets, too. Didn't think for a second that it would be a good idea to inject the ferrets with the stuff, considering SOME people today though, that's certainly a good thing to specify.

Washing kills them, but they will shift position (onto you, or the carpet) when you remove your bedding and if you have a top-loader, try to jump out of the washing machine when they notice the water coming in. It's the eggs you need to worry about. Wash with hot water, as long as it won't destroy your bedding. Also, I know some dog flea shampoo can cause poisoning in cats, so it was a good thing you used kitten shampoo. You should ask the vet what carpet spray and shampoo is safe for your ferrets though. I know many pet flea products, especially carpet sprays contain permethrin, which is a very dangerous chemical that causes lung tumors as well as nerve damage, etc... Search Google for permethrin use on pets and you will find stories of pets dying. As I said, flea eggs are your main worry now. Do plenty of research on Google to see how to safely get rid of them.
