It's a giant isopod.
Interesting fact: they're just as cozy in your living room as they are 1000+ feet down in the ocean. You could keep a bathtub full of them, if you wanted.

out of curiosity, is there any reason these things aren't sold as pets? They don't seem to be particularly dangerous, and if they don't need deep-sea conditions to survive it seems like it might be fun to have a couple of them wandering around and eating Doritos.

They need water, darkness, and carrion.

And the occasional flesh of young children boiled in hot water.

Actually I think those things couldn't handle the Sun.
That's why they live in pure darkness!

Can't be, he doesn't have 100 friends you have to fight first, that have a high chance of glitching and all coming out at once. Also, he doesn't fart dust clouds.

question, have they ever been documented to attack other creatures or are they strictly scavengers?
>> Anonymous

They've been known to pull Ice Road Truckers under the ice to their doom.

They'll chase down and kill the lighting quick sea cucumber.

Wow... that thing actually is real.

I could of sworn it was a shop.
>> sage

I really doubt that's true. Would a lobster survive outside of water for an extended period of time?

Our little terrestrial isopods are little because they still have gills and need high humidity for respiration. A large one would dessicate quickly.

uhhh, yes it would

Came here off the front page thanks to the WoW reference, and have now learned something new. Never knew about those creepy little buggers ..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_isopod

On top of that, I have also learned that paucity = scarcity.

It's a weird, weird world.

Wiki has nothing to say on their ability to live outside of water--but I doubt it, seeing as it says they're kept in aquariums.
