I recently went to visit my father on a trip, and the spare room at his place is in the basement.

Anyways, I was getting ready for bed, and pulled the small quilt back (that the cat usually sleeps on) and there was the biggest fucking spider I have ever seen.

I am really curious as to what the hell this thing was (before I killed it.)

I placed a quarter next to it, so you could gauge the scale of how big this thing was. D:

OP here:

while sharing similar characteristics, I am pretty sure it is not a wolf spider. Wolf spiders have a different patterning on their backs and legs.

how in the fuck do you consider this thing "big"?

Even in buttfuck missouri we have bigger spiders than this.

considering it was right next to my pillow, it was enough to make me skittish.

btw, I reside in Iowa and this is one of the largest I have seen.

Seconding this. Missouri resident here as well. I've had spiders bigger than that live around my porch light. Keeps those damn annoying bugs away quite nicely.

Oh man OP you don't know big spiders. Back in Simi Valley we had ones that were the size of a half dollar.

But hey it's all better now, because back in Phoenix we just get SCORPIONS THE SIZE OF MICE! AND FUCKING RATTLESNAKES EVERYWHERE!

Amazingly, you're right. It's a Kukulcania species. Probably hibernalis. Harmless and beneficial. GJ killing it dumbass.

The bigger the scorpions are, the more harmless they are. At least in Arizona. Hadrurus arizonensis are the least of your worries. It's the Centruroides sculpturatus that crawl around your house at night that you have to watch out for.

I once saw a pic of a huge spider sitting on a toilet paper roll, does anyone have that?
