#1 CLEAN UP. Mice like dark areas, especially where there are objects to hide in/around. A clean, well lit, tidy, apartment will have no comfortable spaces for the mice to go. Of course, you should also make sure there is nothing available for them to eat. Don't leave dirty dishes or food lying around (ever). Sweep/vacuum floors, keep whatever food you have stored securely. Make sure there are no dripping pipes or faucets either.
Eliminating food, water, and desireable shelter will give the mice no reason to stick around.
2) Those ultrasonic pest repellers don't work very well at all. I wouldn't bother with them.
3) Traps are effective. If you don't want to use lethal traps, then livecatch traps are a viable alternative. Just make sure you release the mice FAR away from your house. If you release them out the door they'll be back inside in no time. Victor / Havahart makes small mice-sized livecatch traps that actually work quite well. Set the traps in areas where you have seen (or suspect) mice, and remember to set them correctly. Mice like to travel along corners, such as between the floor and a wall, or the floor and furniture, etc. Set the traps there.
