USER MANUAL for the
Shooting Chrony BALLISTIC PRINTER™ Model CBP-8TE

. The SHOOTING CHRONY BALLISTIC PRINTER™ works with all Shooting Chrony Models and all Master Chrony Models, manufactured and sold since January 1, 2000, and, starting with Serial # 157288.

The following Chrony Models manufactured and sold prior to that date and Serial number also work with the CHRONY PRINTER: The Alpha, Beta and Gamma Shooting Chronys and the respective MasterChrony Models.

To operate the BALLISTIC CHRONY PRINTER, it must be connected to one of the above Chrony chronographs.

To do this, the PRINTER comes with a 16 ft. interface cable (4 ft. with Master Chrony Models). Connect it to the Stereo Jacks of the Chrony and PRINTER. Your CHRONY PRINTER will print velocities as measured by the Chrony and print statistics such as : Lo, Hi, Average velocities, Extreme Spread and Standard Deviation. Your CHRONY PRINTER can do this in two ways:

  1. Print as you shoot: In PRINT MODE (left light on): It will print shot number and velocities as you shoot across the Chrony. When done shooting a string of shots, press the STAT button, and the PRINTER will print the statistics of the string just fired.
  2. 2) Print from Chrony memory: In the P/NP MODE (left light on): By pressing the STAT/VEL button: It prints statistics first, and then shot numbers and velocities in reverse order; i.e. it will print the last shot first and the first shot last from data stored in Chrony memory.
    FEED button: to feed paper continuously;
    TEST/ON button: will turn PRINTER ON and test the availability of battery power. If the PRINTER prints slow or, if PRINTER keeps printing on one spot, batteries are getting low. OFF button: will turn PRINTER OFF and reset communications and software on PRINTER.
The CHRONY PRINTER comes with 6-Volt AC Adapter (500mA), that runs from 120 Volts house current. It can also work with 4 (AA) Batteries (NOT INCLUDED).

Make sure Printer power is OFF when connecting or disconnecting the adapter.

This paper should be fed into the printing element by sliding it at the bottom of the PRINTER towards the printing element. Be patient. When paper comes to a stop, hold it there and push the FEED button. When fed correctly, the printing mechanism will pull the paper through the printing element

    TO GET STARTED

  1. Make sure PRINTER and CHRONY are turned off;
  2. Mount CHRONY on a tripod (or table) and place PRINTER within easy reach anywhere on the shooting bench;
  3. Connect PRINTER and CHRONY with interface cable;
  4. Keep in mind, that the FU (Function) button and the ST (String) button on the PRINTER have the same function as the FU and ST buttons on the BETA and GAMMA CHRONYS. By connecting the PRINTER to the CHRONY, both are now interfaced, and the PRINTER can be used in place of a REMOTE CONTROL.

    By pushing the ST button, one moves one String up. However, by doing so,the PRINTER will have switched itself into the NO PRINT-mode and the light on the left hand side will be off and it will not print the String Number and the number of shots. To get back into the PRINT-mode, push the P/NP button; the light on the left hand side will come on, and the PRINTER will be in PRINT-mode again.
    To avoid the above situation, one can get better results by pushing the OFF and STAT buttons simultaneously to move to the next higher String. To move to the next lower String, push the STAT/VEL and the P/NP buttons simultaneously or at the same time. By doing this, the PRINTER will print the String Number as well as the number of shots on that particular String.
  5. The NO PRINT-mode is used, when reviewing velocities and statistics with the FU button but, without activating the PRINTER
  6. The F-1 Chrony has no FU or ST buttons. Reviewing velocities and statistics with the F-1 Chrony can only be done with a Remote Control or,with the FU button of the PRINTER. The Alpha Chrony has no ST button. To start a new String, both Models have to be turned off first and then on again.
  7. When preparing the set-up, follow safety instructions as explained in USER MANUAL of your CHRONY chronograph.
ACTUAL USE

  1. Connect the CHRONY to the PRINTER, using the Interface Cable.
  2. Turn CHRONY "ON";
  3. Push the TEST/ON button to turn the PRINTER "ON". (right light will come on );
  4. Push the PN/P button on PRINTER (left light will come on);
  5. Start shooting. Do not shoot faster than PRINTER can print. If you do, it will skip printing velocities.
  6. To print statistics, push the STAT button.
  7. To print velocities and statistics from CHRONY-PRINTER memory, press STAT/VEL button and PRINTER will print statistics first and then velocities: printing last velocity first and first velocity last
  8. To review velocities and statistics before printing , press & release the FU button. To delete unwanted shot-velocities and many more functions, look up the instruction manual of your Chrony
  9. When done printing, tear off print-out and staple to target or file. The printing was done on real paper and therefore will last indefinitely. This is now a document, providing a permanent record.

Battery Operation

Be sure that + and - poles of each battery are facing in the right direction.
NOTE the following to avoid battery leakage and damage to the unit:

  • Never mix different battery types;
  • Don’t mix old batteries with new ones;
  • Never leave dead batteries installed in the unit;
  • Remove batteries when you have no plans to use the PRINTER for a long time;
  • Do not expose batteries to heat; do not let them become shorted; do not try to take them apart; Use Alkaline batteries for better results;
  • (Should batteries start to leak, clean out the battery compartment; Avoid battery fluid to come in direct contact with skin.)

Replacing Ink Roller (IR-40)
When the ink roller needs to be replaced, purchase an IR-40/IR-30 ink roller from your nearest Casio dealer.
